Shin: And for some reason you feel threatened by her commitment to me. By her accepting my proposal of marriage.

EJ: Threatened? Not in the least. I’m just warning you that Gabi’s said commitment to you might not be so wholehearted.

Shin: And I’m warning you to mind your own damn business.

EJ: None of my business? Stefan was my brother, and you and Gabi are on a mission to consolidate power at DiMera. So it’s very much my business,

Shin: Gabi and I are not on any mission. We are deeply in love and soon to be married. Her heart belongs to me, damn it! Not your dead brother!

Gabi: Stefan? No, mm-hmm, that’s– that’s impossible because Stefan had his heart taken out of his chest, okay? I begged Dr. Wolf to– to help me, but he said Stefan was beyond help. I donated his heart! I donated his heart, and it is inside of Julie Williams’ chest right now.

Stefan: Yeah?

Gabi: Mm-hmm.

Stefan: Dr. Rolf gave me a new heart.

Gabi: [exhales sharply]

Stefan: That’s right. And apparently he had me on ice for quite some time.

Gabi: For four years– for four years? How would that even– That’s– that is Jake’s suit. How would you– I know this. I know this because I bought that suit for him. How could you–

Stefan: My sister brought it to me.

Gabi: Your sister? You mean Kristen?

Stefan: Yeah.

Gabi: Oh, my– she’s been living in Jake’s apartment. Does she know about this?

Stefan: What, that I’m alive? Of course she does. All right, but this suit? I don’t know if Kristen knows that it was my brother’s suit or not, but I can assure you, suit or no suit, I’m Stefan. That much, I’m sure of.

Gabi: So it was you– it was Stefan that Ava saw in here earlier, not Jake?

Stefan: Yeah. It was me.

Gabi: Stefan? You are alive? You’re– you’re back. You’re really– You’re back? Oh.

Alex: I promise I will never offer to celebrate anything with you ever again. Not even an office birthday.

Stephanie: Good. We’ll celebrate Titan’s successes separately as well.

Alex: Is that what you’re gonna go do right now? Celebrate separately?

Stephanie: Uh, no, I have another client to see.

Alex: Oh, all work and no play?

Stephanie: A recipe for success. I happen to love my job, Alex, most of the time. So we’re clear on where we stand?

Chanel: Mama, you’re running for governor? Where did that even come from”

Paulina: [Laughs] Well, Abe and I had a meeting with Stephanie Johnson, our PR Wiz.

Abe: You see, she thinks that Paulina would be a stronger candidate.

Paulina: Well, that’s not exactly what she said, honey.

Abe: This was Paulina’s dream. It was hers all along. So we decided that she should go for it.

[Both chuckle]

Paulina: And I hope I can count on your support.

Chanel: Of course.

Paulina: Rest assured, we will pay for all of these cookies–every single one of them. [Laughs] And I’d like to place an order for 10,000 more that say vote for Paulina.

Allie: Well, too paraphrase one of my brother’s favorite movie quotes– “We’re gonna need a bigger cookie.”

Abe: [Chuckles]

EJ: [Chuckles] Your defensiveness about Gabi’s devotion to you leads me to believe that you are not so sure of it yourself.

Shin: How about we limit our conversation to business matters

EJ: Like your latest hire and what an idiotic mistake that was?

Shin: Ava Vitali is as shrewd as they come.

EJ: Oh, she may be shrewd, but she’s also off her rocker, hallucinating her dead husband, or rather her dead boyfriend. Since it’s obvious to anyone with half a brain that that marriage never occurred.

Shin: [Chuckles] Gabi and I stand by Ava as does your son.

EJ: My son’s judgment is clouded by his libido.

Shin: You underestimate him, EJ, as you do anyone who isn’t blindly loyal to you. I should go check on the CEO of your father’s company. She and I have so much to celebrate.

[soft music]

Stefan: What the hell did you do that for?

Gabi: Stefan, what are you talking about? I’m your wife. You remembered my name. Don’t you remember me?

Stefan: Of course. Of course I remember.

Gabi: Then– then you remember how much I love you.

Stefan: Well, I don’t love you. In fact, I can barely stand the sight of you.

Ava: Mm, you are very persuasive, Johnny.

Johnny: [Chuckles]

Ava: Not to mention sweet and supportive, and I really do like you.

Johnny: So does that mean–

Ava: No, no, no. You and me, Uh-uh, not gonna happen for many reasons, most of which I just told you, but mainly, it’s just because I want to, um… I need to heal, you know? Or at least try to…from losing Jake. I just think I need to keep my life as simple as possible right now. You understand, don’t you?

Johnny: Yeah, I’m trying to.

Ava: But I want you to know your defending me the way you did against your father, and the way you’ve been pursuing me, it’s– I gotta say, it, uh, definitely helped my ego.

Johnny: Good.

Ava: It lifted my spirits and, um, you’re helping me heal.

[knock at door]

EJ: Johnny. Johnny, are you in there? You missed Jake’s service, you know? Which is very poor form, considering that you arranged it. Johnny–

[tense music]

EJ: [Sighs]

Allie: Are we really going to go back into that bakery and make 10,000 more cookies?

Chanel: Well, I hope Mama understands that we’re gonna have to charge more for bigger cookies, but I’ll straighten that all out with her in the morning. In the meantime, we should probably figure out what–

Alex: Just the pair I was looking for.

Chanel: Hey, Alex.

Alex: Hey.

Chanel: What’s up?

Alex: Well, I need your wisdom, guidance, relationship advice or– or better yet, lack of relationship advice.

Chanel: And what do you need all of that for?

Alex: You guys gotta help me get over Stephanie Johnson.

EJ: Get up, get dressed and get the hell outta my house–now! I was right all along.

Johnny: Dad, calm down. It’s not what it looks like–

EJ: Don’t you dad tell me it’s not what it looks like. I know exactly what it is. This woman, this– this scheming slut.

Johnny: Hey! Don’t talk about her that way.

EJ: Can’t you see what she’s doing? She’s using you to get to me.

Ava: No, please do not flatter yourself.

EJ: I questioned your so-called marriage to my brother, Jake, which for the record, I still don’t believe actually happened. I questioned your sanity and your ability to carry out your responsibilities at DiMera. So you took my son to bed for one reason, and one reason alone.

Johnny: Dad!

EJ: Revenge!

Johnny: You don’t understand.

Ava: No, no, he does.

EJ: Get out of my house now.

Ava: Yeah, I damn well will because the sight of you makes me sick.

Johnny: Yeah, me, too, and if she goes, I go.

EJ: Win, win.

Gabi: Stefan, what– what are you saying? No, listen, you have been through a trauma. You are confused, but please just try, try to remember how much we love each other.

Stefan: I, uh… I don’t feel that way. Not at all.

Gabi: So you have to remember, please. You have to.

Shin: Oh, my God.

Stephanie: I was able to book you a magazine interview for tomorrow. I have some materials here for your prep.

Paulina: Oh, wow. Someone does their homework. Well, I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say. The only skeletons left in my closet now are Halloween decorations.

Stephanie: Excellent. and Mayor Carver, is it possible that you could also participate in the interview?

Abe: Oh, uh, I– I’m not running

Stephanie: Our polling shows that the main reason that Salemites were less keen on you running for governor was that they would lose you as mayor, meaning we can parlay your popularity into a huge asset for Paulina. Not that you’re not a strong enough candidate in your own right. But as one half of a political power couple…

Paulina: Ooh, I love the sound of that. A political power couple. Right? Right, Abe?

Abe: I– I– I don’t want this to be about me.

Paulina: Ha, not with me standing next to you. [Chuckles] Oh, I tease this man relentlessly, but lucky for me, he puts up with it.

Abe: Most of the time.

Paulina: Oh.. [Chuckles] You know, it wasn’t that long ago, I would’ve pushed you out that door, after hearing that I was only one half of the power couple.

Stephanie: Well, I’m glad you didn’t hire me then. May I ask why?

Paulina: Uh, when I was young–er, younger, I was trapped in a very painful relationship with my first daughter’s father. Then I met Chanel’s father, and I lost him. After that, I decided that I was just done with men. I didn’t need love, and I didn’t want the pain that it brought. You know, and I had my business. That was enough.

Stephanie: Well, I can certainly relate to that.

Paulina: Yes, until I met Abe. [Chuckles] Then I realized just how wrong I was.

Abe: [Chuckles]

Chanel: Why do you wanna get over Stephanie?

Allie: Yeah, I thought she was the woman of your dreams, love at first sight.

Alex: She is, and it was. But as she blatantly pointed out to me that those feelings have to go both ways, and she drove home that in this case, they don’t.

Chanel: Oh, dang, that’s rough.

Alex: Yeah, I guess there’s this new popular thing about respecting a woman’s boundaries and taking no for an answer. Y’all heard of that?

Allie: Mm-hmm, it rings a bell.

Alex: Uh, well, rung a bell to me, too, because I’m not a schmuck, and I understand that when a woman says, “no,” she means it. Just wasn’t really used to hearing that very often until recently, moving back here.

Chanel: Oh, poor baby.

Allie: Yeah, I mean, it’s really shocking, too, you know? ‘Cause you’re so charming, and handsome, and rich. I can’t even imagine how anyone could say no to you, like, you’re just such a catch.

Alex: All right. Get it outta your system; it’s okay. Just remember, I am a bit heartbroken right now, and I have no idea how I’m supposed to get over this incredible woman who thinks I’m a jerk. All I do know– I should have never listened to Sonny boy.

Chanel: You mean when he told you that you should find love and settle down?

Alex: Yup. And I told you about that. And I also told you that I completely rejected that idea. I was great. I was having a good time. I was having casual encounters with wonderful women that were all fine with it. There was no feelings to complicate things, you know? It was just good, old-fashioned, carnal, hot fun. But now. I’ve got all these feelings–

Chanel: Mm-hmm.

Alex: You know, for Stephanie, and this is a woman that I hardly know. She wants nothing to do with me. So I’m, like, how do I stop obsessing? How do I not feel so needy and pathetic?

Chanel: Well, maybe what you need is to go back to your old ways. You know, just a hookup. In other words, like, no strings attached, just fun, you know? No feelings. Just to get your mind off Stephanie.

Alex: Yeah, that might work. Actually…

Alex: Now, don’t take this the wrong way because you know how much I like you girls, and I know you didn’t exactly jump, the first time around, on this idea, but–

Alex: Is there any chance you two might wanna volunteer to help out your old friend, Alex, through a tough time? Some no-strings fun?

Stefan: When the hell are people gonna stop calling me Jake?

Gabi: Um, Li, I know that this is unbelievable, but this is Stefan.

Gabi: Yeah, he told me that Rolf basically brought him back from the dead.

Stefan: Li, it’s been a long time. I take it you’re still with DiMera?

Shin: Yes, I am.

Stefan: Mm-hmm? Who’s the CEO this week?

Shin: Gabi is, and she’s doing an amazing job.

Stefan: That an engagement ring?

Shin: Yes, it is. Gabi and I are getting married.

EJ: Well, I see you’ve already started packing.

Ava: Oh, you’re damn right. Can’t wait to get out of this mausoleum.

Johnny: Me, neither.

EJ: Then good riddance to the both of you.

Johnny: [Sighs] I’m really sorry about that.

Ava: Nah, don’t be. It’s for the best. I’ll just, um, I’ll get a room at the Salem Inn, and, uh, what about you? Hmm? This is your family home. You sure that you–

Johnny: Oh, I’m very sure. Yeah. My father needs to realize he can’t just bully people and get away with it.

Ava: Okay. So what are you gonna do? Where are you gonna go?

Johnny: Well, I’ll go to the Salem Inn with you.

Ava: Johnny. We just met a couple of weeks ago.

Johnny: And had an immediate connection.

Ava: Yes, but you know that this cannot be.

Johnny: Look, it’s okay. All right. I–I–I’ll sleep on the floor. I’ll sleep on a cot, whatever, and it doesn’t have to be about sex; I mean that. But by the way, I– I kind love that my dad thinks it is.

Ava: Yeah. Me, too. But listen, still, Johnny, I don’t think that this is the right time for us to be movin’ in together. We know now–

Johnny: Look, you know, I didn’t mean– I didn’t mean move in together, move in together, it can be just one night to start, right? If that’s what you want.

Ava: To start–Mm-hmm

Johnny: Okay, look. Ava, I didn’t try to sleep with you to prove some point to my dad. I did it because, well, like I said, I– I really like. I really like you, Ava. You say I’ve helped you. Well, I’ve been a little bummed myself. You know, about Chanel, uh, about a lot of things, but, um, you helped me, too.

Ava: Well, I’m glad, and I just want you to know that, uh, our hanging out so much and getting close like we have, you know, now we know it’s just a friendship.

Johnny: [Chuckles]

Ava: Like I wasn’t looking for revenge against your dad, okay? But if it’s a fringe benefit, then I guess I won’t complain.

Allie: What happened to that little thing you were telling us about, you know, respecting women’s boundaries, taking “no” for an answer”

Alex: But did you ever actually say the word, “No?”

Both: Yes.

Alex: Okay, all right. Just hear me out. This time around wouldn’t all be just fun. You’d actually be doing a pretty good deed for someone. You’d be helping me get Stephanie outta my system and helping your pal out through a difficult time. And you said I was handsome and charming. So what do you say?

Chanel: Well, Alex, you know, we like to have as good a time as anyone–

Alex: Okay. Wait, wait, wait, wait. Listen, speaking for myself, and hopefully for Chanel as well… Sure, yeah, having a fun, no-strings time will maybe get you out of your misery, temporarily, at least. But I think it would be a big mistake to banish this new semi-enlightened you, and look, just because Stephanie wants nothing to do with you, that doesn’t mean that you can’t find somebody out there to have a real relationship with who shares your feelings.

Alex: Yeah. You know, I actually– I agree with Allie, and you know what, maybe you could just consider this a bump in the road on your way to finding that special someone.

Allie: Yeah. And maybe, you know, instead of just jumping into the fun, and distracting yourself from how you’re feeling right now, which is rejected and pathetic, you could deal with those feelings. You could sit with them for a little while. It might be therapeutic, you know?

Alex: Maybe. Thank you girls for listening, and to be honest with you, I really respect the fact that you’re not into the whole threesome idea. After developing these feelings for Stephanie, I kind of understand what it’s like to just want to be with one person– be exclusive and in love with that one– like you guys. But in your case, it obviously goes both ways. Unfortunately, not both ways, both ways, but both ways. You know what I mean. You know what I mean. Hey, I’m envious.

Chanel: [Laughs]

Alex: Take care, ladies.

Allie: [Chuckles] Yeah.

Stephanie: So it was love at first sight for you two?

Paulina: Oh, good heavens no.

[Abe and Paulina chuckle]

Paulina: No, what I mean to say is, well, when I first met Abe, oh, I could see he was quite the catch, but I just told myself, “Not interested.” Like I said, my business was my life. And well, I just– eventually, I just couldn’t ignore what was standing right in front of me.

[Abe and Paulina chuckle]

Paulina: I just–I just opened up, and I gave in, and I’m so glad I did. Man, we’ve hit some potholes along the way, yes. But this man right here is the best thing that ever happened to me.

Abe: Oh, Paulina has made me happier than I ever thought possible.

Paulina: Bottom line, Stephanie, is sometimes you think, you know what you want and don’t want, but as it turns out, you don’t have a clue.

Stephanie: Yeah.

Paulina: Anything else that you want from me?

Stephanie: No, no, I think, I think if you share in the interview tomorrow, what you just told me, you’ll give a lot of people food for thought.

Stefan: Wow, congratulations. Gabi, I’m glad to see that you moved on, and I hope you too have a happy life together. I should go.

Gabi: Oh, Stefan, wait. I– I– I– I don’t know what Rolf has done to you, but we need to get you to a hospital. We have to get you checked out.

Stefan: No, no, I’m not going to a hospital. In fact, I’m not going anywhere with you.

Gabi: But you have to remember.

Stefan: No, no, I do remember, Gabi. You’re the one who needs reminding. I was living a happy life in a relationship with Chloe Lane, and you came along and ruined everything.

Johnny: If you need me, I will be at the Salem Inn with Ava.

EJ: What? You can’t seriously be moving in with that woman? She’s– she’s a cougar. She’s using you. My God, Johnny! This is wrong on so many levels!

Johnny: Ava.

Paulina’s voice: Sometimes you think you know what you want and don’t want, but as it turns out, you don’t have a clue.

Alex: [Sighs] I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to– I didn’t even realize– I’m– I’m gonna go.

Stephanie: It’s a public place, Alex. You can– you’re allowed to be here.

Stephanie: Wait. I know I said that we should celebrate separately, but since you’re here, and I’m here, I guess I don’t see why we can’t celebrate together. I mean, it’s just one drink, and it’s business, right?

Alex: It’s business. Of course. You sure, though?

Stephanie: Pull up a stool. I’m buying.

Alex: [Sighs]

Allie: Do you think Alex learned anything?

Chanel: I think he learned that it’s a bummer to get hurt.

Allie: Do you think that he learned that we don’t need a man in the bedroom to have a good time?

Chanel: Um, yeah. I– I think you, I think you got through to him.

Allie: Chanel, I– I don’t wanna share you with anyone for any reason ever. Like, even for a night, I seriously could not handle that.

Shin: I’m so sorry, Gabi. This must be so disturbing for you–so painful. But I assure you, it’s gonna be okay. I’ll make it okay.

Li: Well, that’s not a good sign. It’s also very unlike you.

Gabi: I just– this is just so unexpected. We haven’t even been dating that long. You’re proposing out of the blue. Where is this coming from?

Li: After I solidify my relationship with gabi, she’ll want nothing to do with stefan. It’s coming from my heart. I love you, gabi, and I was afraid that if I waited any longer, I might miss my chance to make you my wife, and that would be unbearable because I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I’m hoping you feel the same.

[Soft dramatic music]

Tony: Now, it’s unpleasant enough battling gabi and li for control of the company, but to have your family turning on each other as well?

Anna: But, darling, that’s nothing new.

Tony: I know my brother was a bit of a brute to ava. What I don’t understand is why johnny is so protective of her.

Anna: [Chuckles] Darling, isn’t it obvious?

Tony: Well, I suppose it’s due to some misplaced sense of chivalry.

Anna: [Laughs] Chivalry has nothing to do with it. Johnny has a crush on ava.

[Laughter]

Johnny: Of course ava can handle the memorial. She’s a lot stronger than you give her credit for.

Ej: Are you sure about that? Ava seemed pretty shaken up when she saw jake the other night.

Johnny: That was just her imagination. She realizes that now.

Ej: But memorials can be quite emotionally taxing, even for the strongest people. What if this is the thing that pushes her over the edge and makes her start seeing dead people again?

Ava: Jake?

Ava: It really is you. How’s this possible? You’re dead.

Stefan: Not anymore.

Johnny: Yeah, you’d like that, wouldn’t you? For ava to have some kind of breakdown. Because then if she’s declared mentally unfit, you’ll make a play for her shares.

Ej: I’ll admit the idea has crossed my mind.

Johnny: No kidding.

Ej: But if you’re so concerned about her holding on to her shares, her sanity, then maybe this memorial service isn’t such a good idea.

Johnny: Look, ava’s fine with it, okay? And no one is forcing you to go. I just thought you’d want to pay respects to your brother.

Ej: I hardly knew jake.

Johnny: He’s still family. That meant something to nonno. I thought it meant something to you, too, but I guess I was wrong.

Kristen: You need to get to the salem inn right now. This is her room number. You’re going to go to the room, knock on the door, and you are going to show her how much you love her. I thought randy was here, the hunky intern chloe has been flirting with at work.

Chloe: What? That’s not true. I never flirted with that guy, I don’t even know his name.

Brady: Oh, my god, kristen, why would randy the intern be here?

Kristen: Oh, come on, brady, isn’t it obvious? I thought chloe was cheating on you with him. And nauseatingly, though, it would’ve been, I thought I would catch them getting it on. Clearly, I was mistaken, so I’m going to be going.

Chloe: Okay, no, no, not so fast. We know damn well you didn’t come here because you thought I was cheating on brady. Kristen, what are you hiding?

Stefan: Jake dimera. Born december 11, 1979. Coincidence? Maybe this jake dimera is my twin brother. Is that who this woman thinks I am?

Tony: I hope your instincts are off base right now.

Anna: Why? Because ej will go ballistic if ava and johnny get involved?

Tony: Yes, that’s one of the many reasons. I mean, aren’t things bad enough between father and son?

Anna: Oh, ej needs to get over himself and stop trying to control everyone around him. And if johnny is interested in ava, then good for him.

Johnny: Did I hear my name?

Anna: Yes, yes, darling boy. Yes, I was just saying how sweet it is of you for putting together this memorial for ava and for jake. Ava must be very appreciative.

Johnny: Just–I just hope it brings her some peace.

Anna: Ah.

Anna: What do you mean you saw jake?

Ava: I wanted a moment alone before the memorial, so I went down to the crypt, and he was standing there, right next to his plaque.

Tony: And did you talk to him?

Ava: Yeah, we said a few words. Then I freaked out, and I came here, but, look, I know. I know this isn’t possible, but I’m telling you, it seemed real. You think I’m crazy.

Johnny: No. No, I don’T. So, look, why don’t we both go down to the crypt and see if we can get to the bottom of this.

Ava: Thanks, johnny.

Johnny: Let’s go.

[Soft dramatic music]

Kristen: I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m not hiding anything. I will respectfully express my regret on accusing you of being a cheating whore, not that you weren’t in the past, but maybe you’re trying to mend your laws.

Brady: Kristen! Leave now.

Kristen: Of course. I’ll let you two get back to whatever it is you were doing. And brady? I will see you tomorrow in court.

Brady: What in the hell was that about?

Tony: I think my brother was right. Ava is having a nervous breakdown.

Anna: Oh, come on, tony. You know that mausoleum is incredibly dark and creepy. You can’t blame her for thinking she saw a ghost down there.

Ej: Shall we go pay our respects to our brother?

Tony: I thought you weren’t going to attend.

Ej: My son shamed me into it. Family loyalty and all that. Shall we?

Anna: Oh, I actually think we should wait here a bit.

Ej: Why?

Anna: Because ava and johnny are down at the crypt, and it would probably be best if we don’t interrupt them.

Ej: Interrupt what? What’s going on?

Tony: Ava thinks she saw jake again.

Ej: [Chuckles]

Johnny: What’s wrong?

Ava: I just– I just need a minute.

Johnny: Of course, yeah, take your time. You know, on the one hand, I’m afraid jake won’t be in there, and on the other hand, I’m terrified that he will be, and I’m going to be the only one who can see him, and that’s going to be confirm that I’ve lost my mind.

Johnny: Ava, whatever happens in there, I am going to help you through it. All right? We’re going to figure this out together. I’m here for you, okay?

Ava: Okay. Let’s do it.

Johnny: All right.

Gabi: When we first got together, I thought it was just going to be a fun little fling, and that’s what I wanted at the time, and I assumed you were fine with that. But, you know, as time went by, I started to realize it wasn’t just a fun little fling. It has grown into something deeper.

Li: For me as well.

Gabi: I had a conversation with rafe about a month ago, and I told him, li, that I was done with love, that no one could take stefan’s place in my heart, and that’s still true to an extent. But he–he also told me not to give up on love. And I’m starting to realize that there’s room in my heart for someone else, for you.

Li: What are you saying?

Gabi: [Sighs] Well, I’m saying that if the offer still stands, I would be honored to be your wife.

[Tender music]

Ava: There’s no one here. Jake was standing right over there, right near his plaque. And then he came over to me. He reached out, and he touched me this time…

[Chuckles] And he was wearing a suit. His favorite one. But it’s impossible.

Johnny: I don’t know. I mean, my family does kind of have a history of cheating death. My nonno, my dad, my uncle tony, my aunt kristen. They’ve all come back from the dead, so maybe my uncle jake, he did the same thing.

Gabi: [Laughs]

Li: I love you, gabi.

Gabi: I love you too. Now, aren’t you forgetting something?

Li: Oh, of course.

Gabi: Wow. Oh. It is stunning. But it’s probably a little too extravagant.

Li: Nothing too good for you, my love. I want to give you the world.

Gabi: I love the sound of that.

Li: Let’s start tonight. Let’s go celebrate. The night is ours! I’ll book the dimera jet!

Gabi: Yes, yeah, but we have to go after jake’s memorial.

Li: You’re right. How could I forget? I’ll admit I am excited to see how ej and the rest of the dimeras will react to our engagement. I’m guessing they won’t be too pleased that we’ve consolidated our power.

Gabi: I hadn’t even thought of that.

Li: Well, I just hoped that it wasn’t the only reason you accepted my proposal.

Gabi: You’re also a good kisser.

Li: I’m glad you noticed.

Gabi: Of course I noticed, but maybe I could use a little reminder?

Li: Hm.

Kristen: Is he here?

Rolf: Who?

Kristen: Henry viii. Who do you think? Stefan!

Rolf: I thought he went to call on the voluptuous ms. Chloe lane.

Kristen: So did I! But I just saw chloe; my brother clearly hadn’t paid her a visit. Where the hell did he go?

Johnny: All right, let’s go outside. Jake could’ve wandered off.

Ava: No. No. Look, as much as I want to believe that you’re right and jake is alive, I– it doesn’t make any sense. Right? If he was back and he came back for me, then why would he have let me walk out that door? We were in love. He would’ve followed me. He would’ve found me and convinced me that he was back and he would be together right now.

Johnny: I can’t explain why jake would’ve let you go, but if we find him, we can ask him. What’s the harm in trying?

Ava: Oh, I don’t know, I mean, aside from the fact that ej is going to try and use it against me again?

Johnny: Yeah, aside from that.

Ava: Ej finds out that we are out chasing ghosts, he is going to have me locked up, and maybe it was where I belong, right? Because I’ve obviously lost my mind.

Johnny: Ava, no. Look, stop saying that. I’m sure there is a perfectly good explanation for all of this. Didn’t you say you had hallucinations when your son drugged you?

Ava: Yes.

Johnny: Okay, so maybe that’s what’s happening right now. Maybe we need to go get you checked out by a doctor.

Ava: It does not feel like that this time. I haven’t been drugged, johnny.

Johnny: Well, then it’s something else, but you can’t just assume that you’re insane. Let’s think about this for a second. Let’s think about what could be going on here.

Ava: Okay, what is going on here is I can’t tell the difference between what is real and what is not.

[Laughs] I can’t take it anymore. You know, with seeing jake and then having him disappear and then thinking I’ve gone nuts and on top of it, having your father ridicule me all about it? It’s– it’s too much. It’s too much.

Johnny: Ava, wait.

Ej: Um, ava nearly ran me over just now. Is she all right?

Kristen: I don’t understand. I told stefan chloe was staying at the salem inn. I even gave him her room number. I mean, I did everything except draw him a map. So how could he go and screw things up?

Rolf: I warned you that it was too soon to release him out into the world. I would’ve much preferred to have done another round of behavioral conditioning.

Kristen: So you’re telling me that your brainwashing didn’t take?

Rolf: I can’t say for sure, but it worries me that he didn’t feel compelled to go straight to ms. Lane.

Kristen: Really? “It worries you”? Well, it more than worries me, rolf. It’s ruining my day. Possibly my entire future.

[Sighs] If stefan wasn’t compelled to go straight to chloe, well, you know what that means.

Rolf: I hesitate to say.

Kristen: Oh, right, of course, you do. Because if stefan is still in love with gabi, oh, this is on you, rolf. And you sure as hell know what that means.

Anna: Well, we better get down there. Ej took off like a bat out of hell when we told him that ava thought she saw jake again.

Tony: Yes, I– maybe I should’ve said something. I just hope that ej is not going to be too unkind to her.

Anna: Oh, I’m sure he’s probably his usual sensitive and compassionate self.

Tony: Well–

Gabi: Ah. Sorry we’re late.

Tony: Oh. Busy day at the office?

Gabi: Guess you could say that. Li and I are engaged.

Anna: What? Really?

Gabi: Yeah.

Anna: Oh, congratulations!

Li: Thank you, anna. Thank you.

Anna: Wow.

Tony: Yes, congratulations. That’s quite a strategic merger on both your parts.

Li: I assure you, this has nothing to do with business. Gabi and i are very much in love.

Tony: Well, of course you are.

Gabi: So johnny and ava. Where are they at? They’re down at the crypt already?

Tony: Yes. Yes. I hope ava is going to feel well enough to attend the memorial.

Gabi: Why is that? What’s wrong with her?

Tony: Well, I’m afraid she thinks she saw jake again.

Li: What? Where?

Tony: Well, this time she claims she saw him down in the crypt. So johnny went down with her to have a look around.

Gabi: I feel so bad for her. No only is she grieving her husband, now she’s having these hallucinations.

Li: Perhaps we should go down there, make sure everything’s okay.

Johnny: Ava is fine. She’s just feeling a little emotional about the memorial.

Ej: Why? Tony and anna just told me that she still thinks jake is alive.

Johnny: Oh, so you know.

Ej: It’s what I’ve been trying to tell you, johnny. The woman is mentally unstable. Now do you believe me?

Johnny: [Chuckles] This is all going exactly the way you planned it, isn’t it?

Ej: What the hell are you talking about?

Johnny: You’re gaslighting her, trying to convince her that she’s insane so you can get your hands on her shares.

Ej: Oh, please. Ava is making herself insane. She doesn’t need any help from me.

Johnny: Oh, really? Because you told her that it wouldn’t be long before she had another vision of jake and then boom, it happens, giving you just the evidence you need to take her shares.

Ej: And how in the hell was I supposed to arrange that?

Johnny: I don’t know, maybe you put on a jake mask.

Ej: [Laughs] I think you’re confusing me with your aunt kristen. I don’t do masks. In fact, I’m horrified by the entire concept.

Johnny: Then you hired a look-alike.

Ej: A look-alike? Okay, now you’re just being crazy, johnny.

Johnny: Jake has turned up twice. Somehow, I don’t know, but I think you’re behind it, and you’re trying to scare her.

Ej: Damn it, johnny, I am not responsible for ava’s hallucinations! And frankly, I’m getting sick and tired of you taking that woman’s side over mine!

Johnny: That woman has a name and she’s your sister-in-law.

Ej: Alleged sister-in-law. You’d have to be an idiot to think that her and jake were actually married. That’s just more of her sinister lies. She’s an amoral woman, johnny. She was brought up to have no conscience, and that is still the case, no matter what she may say to you.

Johnny: Is that what you tell yourself to justify your campaign against her?

Ej: Damn it, johnny, there is no campaign! And your defending this deranged woman is not only infuriating, it is also downright sad. The fact that you’re so bloody gullible, so naive, it’s just embarrassing!

Johnny: Well, yeah, I’d rather be gullible and naive if that means having a heart. I’d much prefer that to being cold and cynical, like you. Ava is vulnerable, and I will not let you push her over the edge.

Ej: Oh, my god, I’m not trying to–

Johnny: Just stay away from her, damn it! Leave her the hell alone.

It’s started. Somewhere between a cuddle

Johnny: What are you doing?

Ava: What does it look like I’m doing? I can’t stay here. This house of horrors is driving me insane.

Johnny: Where will you go?

Ava: I don’t know, probably back to the garage.

Johnny: No. No, ava, don’t do that, you shouldn’t be alone right now.

Ava: I won’t be because kristen is still staying there.

Johnny: That’s even worse. My aunt kristen’s favorite game is getting people to question their sanity.

Ava: Oh, well, too bad for her, she won’t have far to go.

[Chuckles] Besides, you know, I never belonged here in the first place. Maybe it’s why I’m being punished.

Johnny: For what? You didn’t do anything.

Ava: Okay, come on, you must know that’s not true, right? I’ve done plenty terrible things in my life, and maybe it’s all just coming back to haunt me literally.

Johnny: What, you’re talking about the mafia stuff? Because let me tell you, my nonno did some things in his day that would make the vitalis look like choir boys. And he still gets to have his portrait on the wall. Besides, that’s in the past. I mean, you fought to overcome all that. You should be proud of everything you’ve accomplished.

Ava: Wow, you– you really are sweet. But you’re giving me too much credit. And aside from me not being that lovely person that you think that I am, I’m losing my mind, and you should not have to deal with that.

Johnny: You’re not losing your mind, ava.

Ava: Then how would you explain what I saw or what I thought that I saw?

Johnny: You can’T. I can’T. Okay, but if you just stay, we can figure it out together like I said, just– just please don’t go.

[Dramatic music]

Rolf: I just got a text from mr. Shin.

Kristen: What did we want?

Rolf: Apparently, ava vitali thinks she saw jake on the dimera property again.

Kristen: Meaning she saw stefan again.

Rolf: Sounds like your brother went back home instead of seeking out ms. Lane.

Kristen: Which means he went to track down his wife. Damn it, rolf! You didn’t wipe out his love for gabi after all.

Ej: And then he accused me of gaslighting ava, which of course I denied, but he refused to listen, the little swine.

Tony: Well, that’s a lovely way to refer to your son.

Ej: Should I think warmly of him when all he does is insult me? When he feels no loyalty to me whatsoever?

Gabi: Okay, look, outrage aside, johnny has reasons to be suspicious. I mean, you would do anything to get your hands on ava’s shares.

Ej: Like I told my son repeatedly, I am in no way responsible for ava’s decline. And rest assured, I’m going to let your father know about this latest incident, just in case you two were trying to cover up for ava again.

Gabi: You know, you really are a creep.

Anna: Enough! Guys, we’re supposed to be here to pay our respects to jake, and can we just table the usual snarkiness for just a bit?

Tony: Yeah, anna’s right. Shall we begin with the memorial?

Anna: I suppose we might as well. The less time we spend in this place, the better.

Tony: So we are here today to celebrate the life of our dearly departed brother, jake, who’s joined his twin, stefan, in the great beyond.

[Soft dramatic music]

Stefan: Anyone here?

[Sighs] Guess not.

Stefan: Good to see you again, father.

Time. It’s life’s most precious commodity,

Kristen: Stefan was supposed to fall in love with that stupid slut chloe and drive a wedge between her and brady! Rolf, my whole plan is going up in smoke! And it’s because of your incompetence!

Rolf: What? How is this my fault? I told you he wasn’t ready!

Kristen: Well, then perhaps you should’ve been a little more forceful with your concerns! Your timidity, along with your failure, has ruined everything! And not just my plans, rolf, you screwed things up for li as well. Oh, I’m warning you. I am warning you, rolf. If stefan shows up to reclaim gabi, li shin is going to make you pay for your unforgivable blunders with your life!

Anna: That was a lovely tribute, darling.

Tony: Oh, thank you, sweetheart. Although, I found it hard to come up with some cherished memories of a brother I hardly knew. But I did my best. Oh, by the way, did anybody invite kristen?

Anna: Well, i certainly didn’T.

Ej: Don’t look at me. This whole memorial was all johnny’s idea. And he and jake’s grieving widow didn’t even have the courtesy to attend themselves.

Anna: Well, I’m sure that ava is grieving in her own way.

Tony: Yeah, well, now that this is all done, shall we get back to the house and have some cocktails and hors d’oeuvres?

[Soft dramatic music]

Ej: Oh, don’t let us keep you though if there’s someplace else you’d rather be.

Li: Thanks, tony. Drinks and a little something to eat sounds lovely. We’ll catch up.

Tony: Okay, we’ll see you there.

Li: Are you all right?

Gabi: Yeah, I’d just like a moment alone with stefan if that’s okay with you. I just, um– I’d like to share our news with him and sort of ask for his blessing.

Li: Of course.

Gabi: I won’t be long.

Johnny: Please, ava, don’t go.

Ava: I have to, johnny. Nobody wants me here.

Johnny: Look, I do. This house? It’s a lot more bearable with you in it.

Ava: Why are you being so nice to me?

Johnny: Because… I like having you around. And I care about you, ava, a lot.

Ej: I’m going to look for johnny.

Anna: Well, maybe you should wait just a minute. Give him a little more time. Besides, you don’t want to miss the champagne toast to celebrate gabi and li’s engagement.

Ej: They’re engaged?

Anna: Yes, apparently. Just today, and she’s gotten quite the big rock from him.

Ej: And why the hell would I toast to that? Those two are merely trying to cement their positions at our family company, consolidate their power.

Tony: I had the same thought.

Anna: Oh, you two are such cynics. Come on, tony. Help me pick out a bottle of champagne. Oh, ugh. Who put that empty glass there? That could leave a water mark.

Tony: Oh, darling, don’t worry about that. Harold will take care of it.

Gabi: I never imagined I’d be telling you about my feelings for another man, and I hope you understand that as wonderful as what we had was, I needed–I needed to make a new life for myself. But, you know, even though li and I are engaged, you are the love of my life and always will be. But I have to let you go. Goodbye, stefan.

[Phone beeps]

Gabi: [Sighs]

EJ: Need any help with the big words?

Gabi: Is there something you want?

EJ: No, I just stopped by to tell you that you’ve made a major mistake.

Gabi: Really? Because I’m not the one who went down in flames in front of the entire board.

EJ: No, but you are the one who gave Ava Vitali a job here.

Gabi: That’s right, yeah.

EJ: [Chuckles]

Gabi: Is something funny?

EJ: I’d say more ironic.  [Clears throat] You see, I’ve been wracking my brain trying to figure out a way to get you out of that chair. And you went ahead and took care of it for me.

[Knock at door]

Ava: Hey.

Johnny: Oh, I’m sorry. You look busy, I don’t–

Ava: No, not at all. How can I help you?

Johnny: I just wanted to check in with you, see how you’re doing after everything that went down with my dad.

Ava: Oh, you know, I think yesterday may have been harder on you than it was on me.

Johnny: Oh, come on, he went after you, not me.

Ava: Yeah, but he used you to do it. I mean, he attacked me, but he betrayed you.

Chloe: Hey, Rafe. Yeah, no, I’m just letting you know that I’m almost back at the Inn, and Brady’s still at work. Yeah, no, the security detail’s been incredible, thank you. Is there any word on Leo? It’s just not fun to think that that psychopath’s on the loose somewhere. All right, I won’t. I appreciate it I’ll talk to you soon.

[Phone beeps]

Kristen: What the hell are you doing?

Chloe: Oh, that’s funny, I was just talking about psychopaths on the loose.

Kristen: Mm, I asked you what the hell you were doing.

Chloe: I’m going home.

Kristen: Home? I don’t think so. See, I dropped by the office to go over all your mistakes that you made on the projections you sent me, and they said you’d left, nearly two hours before the end of business.

Chloe: Well, that was Brady’s decision. You can take that up with him.

Kristen: Oh, what a surprise. So you persuaded Brady to knock off early. What’d you do, show him a little cleavage?

Chloe: For goodness’ sake. I didn’t do anything. Like I just said, it was Brady’s decision. He said he needed some time to prepare for the hearing tomorrow, in which he will be fighting you for full custody of Rachel.

Kristen: Hmm.

[Door clicks]

Shin: So you are here.

Rolf: [Gasps] Mr. Shin. You startled me.

Shin: And you hung up on me over an hour ago, never called back.

Rolf: I was attending to my patient.

Shin: You mean your lab experiment. So who was your little visitor? Did Kristen decide to drop by? What is that? What is that? What are you doing?

Rolf: I need you to leave. You’re interrupting my work.

Shin: You’re scared.

Rolf: No.

Shin: Something’s wrong. Damn it, did you end up killing him?

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Anna: [Gasps] Oh, I hope you made a shakerful of whatever that is.

Tony: I made us a gallon of very dry martinis.

Anna: Ooh. Good. Let’s drink it all because I’m really looking forward to this evening.

Tony: A nice family dinner with a side of guerilla warfare.

[Both chuckle]

Anna: Well, I take it that, since things are still relatively quiet, EJ isn’t home yet?

Tony: No, we still have that to look forward to. Pasta e fagiole with EJ and Johnny, and our housemate, Ava. Oh, help us with the parmesan and the cyanide.

Anna: [Laughs] Oh, I hope I’m not speaking out of turn, but you know, sometimes it seems that EJ doesn’t bounce back when things don’t go his way.

Tony: Oh, to say that things don’t go his way is a bit of an understatement. First Johnny voted against him at the board meeting and then defied his father when he tried to throw Ava out.

Anna: Yes, but don’t forget that EJ secretly taped Johnny and then played said tape to a room full of people. I don’t think EJ can be surprised if Johnny stood up to him.

Tony: Oh, he more than stood up to him. First, he backed Gabi over his father. And then his father had to back down over Ava. Two times in public.

Anna: Mm.

Tony: Trust me. EJ’s not going to take any of this lying down.

Anna: Mm-mm.

Ava: Okay. I had no business saying that. I am sorry.

Johnny: Why? All you did was tell the truth, which is a refreshing change of pace around this house.

Ava: Yeah, but, Johnny, the last thing I want to do is make things even worse between you and your father.

Johnny: You didn’t do anything; it was him. I mean, you’re right. He recorded a private conversation that I had with him and then played it in public. He betrayed me.

Ava: Yeah, but, you know, he was trying to protect his family.

Johnny: He wasn’t trying to protect his family. He was trying to put himself back in charge. All he accomplished was proving once again that, you know, he cares more about himself than he does about me.

Ava: Johnny.

Johnny: No, it’s fine. It’s fine. It opened my eyes. And I promise you that I will never let him treat you like that again.

Ava: Oh. Look, you don’t have to protect me. You don’t have to worry about me. Actually, everything turned out the way it’s supposed to.

Johnny: Come on, you can’t mean that.

Ava: No, I do, I do. Actually, I am now working at DiMera.

Johnny: Wow, okay. When did that happen?

Ava: This morning, Gabi gave me a job.

EJ: You do know, don’t you, Chief Executive Officer Gabi, that the fact that you and Shin lied about Ava seeing her dead husband doesn’t mean that she didn’t see her dead husband and most likely will see him again. You’ve just hired a mafia princess who is in the process of losing her mind. What could possibly go wrong?

Gabi: She’s grieving, okay? She is fragile at the moment. You know what? She’s got a good business head. And she’s excellent at management and delegation.

EJ: You call, “Mario, go pop Tony the Tuna,” delegating?

Gabi: All right, you can go now.

EJ: You can spare me the corporate BS. Do you honestly expect me to believe that Ava got this job on her merit? You wouldn’t have hired her as janitor if you weren’t her co-conspirator.

Gabi: Excuse me?

EJ: It’s obvious that you two are working together. Thanks to Ava’s so-called marriage to my recently-departed brother, you think she can help you keep you in the job that you don’t deserve.

Gabi: So-called marriage?

EJ: Yeah, the marriage that conveniently happened just mere minutes before the groom was shot to death. It’s an obvious sham. And you can’t honestly say that you believe any differently.

Gabi: You know, it really doesn’t matter what I believe, or what you believe for that matter. See, I didn’t lose my job. But you lost your son. Well-played, EJ. Very well-played.

Rolf: He’s fine. He’s simply recuperating from the first cycle of his conditioning.

Shin: And when he wakes up, he’ll be in love with Chloe?

Rolf: I don’t know. Until I return him to full-consciousness, I’ll have no idea if he’ll need more cycles or not.

Shin: How many cycles might it take?

Rolf: [Scoffs] You know, you’re like a whiny schoolboy in back seat endlessly asking, “are we there yet?” It doesn’t speed anything up and really irritates the driver.

Shin: That didn’t answer my question.

Rolf: I can’t answer it. I’ve only begun. And I’d much rather be certain he’s totally over his feelings for Gabi before I return him to consciousness.

Shin: I agree with that.

Rolf: I feel so validated.

Shin: The last thing we need is for him to escape again– go after Gabi again. I still don’t understand how he managed to overpower you.

Rolf: It was the power of love.

Shin: Well, then I suggest you up your security. Last thing we need is him getting back to Gabi. Kristen and I are in complete agreement about that.

Kristen: You expect me to believe that Brady closed Basic Black on the account of the hearing?

Chloe: You don’t think that Brady would do everything in his power to keep Rachel? You clearly don’t know what kind of a man Brady is or what kind of a father.

Kristen: Don’t you dare tell me I don’t know what kind of a father he is. See, it’s you I don’t trust. And as long as you are in his orbit, I need to protect my daughter.

Chloe: Oh, please. This whole selfless act does not play with me. Do you really think that keeping Rachel away from me or her father is what’s best for her? I mean, listen, I know that you’ve been pardoned of your previous crimes, but you are still a violent sociopath. And I plan on telling the court exactly that tomorrow.

Kristen: Oh. And they’ll just take your word for it?

Chloe: Oh, well, I have some very vivid details about you threatening to stab me with that letter opener. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go work on my testimony.

Kristen: [Sighs]

Anna: The truth is, I can’t help feeling sorry for Ava.

Tony: You know, the issue is not about whether or not we feel sorry for Ava. The issue is whether or not she’s capable or competent enough to hold a seat on the board.

Anna: Well, you’re right, I guess. You know, she’s not sane and rational, like Kristen, who kidnapped half of Salem and put them on a desert island. And did EJ challenge her competency? No. He went after Ava, not because she was incompetent, but because she was vulnerable. And that was a mistake.

Tony: [Sighs] He may have lost the battle, but this war is not over.

Anna: I’m not talking about a business mistake. Tony… EJ kicked Ava when she was down. And he betrayed a confidence to Johnny to do so. So, yeah, he could still end up being the DiMera CEO, but I don’t know if Johnny will ever feel the same way about him again.

Johnny: [Chuckles] Ava, that’s great. I know that you are going to do a fantastic job.

Ava: [Chuckles] Well, I think you might be the only person who does, but yeah, thank you.

Johnny: Boy, would I like to be there when my father finds out.

Ava: Okay, Johnny, like I said, I really don’t want to come between you and your father. And as sweet as it was for you to stand up for me, maybe it would be easier for the two of you to work things out if I wasn’t here…

Johnny: No.

Ava: In a room down the hall.

Johnny: Ava, no, no. Somebody has to stand up to him. He can’t just keep treating people like dirt.

Ava: Okay, I know how angry you are, but I–

Johnny: Look, there’s something else that I wanted to talk to you about.

Ava: Okay.

Johnny: Do you remember what my dad said yesterday about having a service for Jake in the family crypt?

Ava: Yeah. I didn’t think he was serious.

Johnny: No, probably not, but I’d still like to do it. I think it would be good for everyone, you know? Say goodbye to him as a family.

Ava: You mean, maybe it would help me lay his ghost to rest.

EJ: My relationship with my son is none of your business.

Gabi: Looks like I hit a nerve.

EJ: You know, I’m not interested in what you might guess. You may have been married to my brother, you may be CEO of this company, but that doesn’t make you a DiMera. What happens between me and my son is family business.

Gabi: Which you happened to make DiMera business when you brought that recording into the board meeting, which I’m glad you did, though. Not only did Johnny move over to my side to support me, but maybe he could finally be free of you. See, he doesn’t deserve a father like you. And you really don’t deserve a son like him.

[Tense music]

[Knock at door]

Chloe: Oh, good, it’s you.

Brady: Who’d you think it might be?

Chloe: I just had a run-in with Kristen; I thought she might be ready for round two.

Rolf: All right. From the data I have been able to collect, you responded well to our initial session. Now we are going to continue to ensure that you feel nothing but hatred for Gabi Hernandez and instead will direct all your affections towards Chloe Lane.

[Monitor beeping]

Rolf: Your heartbeat is nice and steady. Good. The more relaxed you are, the better for our work.

[Door clicks]

Kristen: You need to wake him up, right now.

Gabi: [Sighs] Where have you been?

Shin: And a pleasant hello to you, too.

Gabi: I called you; your assistant said you were out.

Shin: I was taking my father to the airport.

Gabi: Oh, well, I hope he had a nice trip. But I’m not gonna miss him.

Shin: You seem to be in a bit of a mood.

Gabi: I am–I mean, I just finished a very uncomfortable conversation with EJ. He’s really mad that I hired Ava. [Sighs]

Ava: I think it would be lovely to say goodbye to Jake as a family. It’s very sweet of you to think of it.

EJ: Oh, didn’t take you long to move from Jake to his nephew.

Johnny: [Chuckles] Wow, Dad, and I thought you hit bottom last night.

EJ: Oh, I’m sorry. Am I supposed to forget who that is, how she operates? She wormed her way into this family and is using that access to get closer to you.

Johnny: You’ve got no proof that Ava did anything. And the harder you try, the worse you look. Oh, wait, did you come here to record another one of my private conversations?

EJ: I didn’t expect you to be here. I actually came because I wanted to have a talk with your aunt. Ava, might I have a word with you in private?

Johnny: I’m not going anywhere.

Ava: It’s okay, Johnny. I can take care of myself.

EJ: Mm.

Johnny: Hm.

[Tense music]

Ava: Okay, EJ, how can I help you?

EJ: [Sighs]

Chloe: Ugh, I just let her get under my skin, so I ended up telling her that I’m testifying tomorrow. But I’m just so sick of her feeling free to just push me around whenever she wants. I wanted to wipe that smug look off her face.

Brady: Chloe, I’m really sorry you have to deal with her.

Chloe: It’s nothing compared to what you have to deal with.

Brady: One, I don’t think that’s true. Number two, it’s my fault. I got involved with her in the first place, didn’t I?

Chloe: That is true.

Brady: Yeah.

Chloe: Wait a minute, what are you doing here? I thought you were gonna have early dinner with Rachel before tomorrow.

Brady: Well, Nora Jane’s mom called and invited Rachel to sleep over, which is wonderful because that house right now is a little island of sanity for Rachel.

Chloe: Hm, well, she’s a very sweet woman for doing that.

Brady: Yeah. [Chuckles] Rachel, she’s handling all this with such a, you know, stiff upper lip.

Chloe: [Sighs]

Brady: It’s kind of breaking my heart a little bit ’cause I see how fragile this whole thing is making her.

Chloe: Is she still angry with me?

Brady: No, no.

Chloe: You’re such a bad liar. Come on, we have to be able to tell each other the truth.

Brady: All right. You’re right, you’re right, yes. The answer’s yes. She thinks that you are trying to break her parents up. I told her time and time again that our problems have nothing to do with you. And I think in time– in time, Rachel will understand that.

Chloe: Not if I testify tomorrow.

[Monitor beeping]

Rolf: You want me to wake him up now?

Kristen: That’s what I said.

Rolf: I was just telling Mr. Shin, he’s only had one cycle of conditioning. He’ll need more before we can be sure his allegiance has switched.

Kristen: I’m sure he’ll be fine. Wake him up.

Rolf: What about Mr. Shin?

Kristen: What about him?

Rolf: He’ll want to be here when he wakes up.

Kristen: Well, you don’t always get what you want.

Rolf: But he’s as invested in this process as you are.

Kristen: No, he is not. Shin sees him as a pawn, a means to an end. I see my brother. Family.

Rolf: I forgot how warm-hearted you are.

Kristen: Yup. That would be me. So, sleeping beauty, it’s time to wake up now.

Anna: Oh, Johnny, dear. Come in. Sit down. Talk to us. Are you all right?

Johnny: Uh, I guess, yeah.

Anna: Oh, well, we– we just hope that you weren’t traumatized by your father’s behavior.

Johnny: Yeah, no. Nothing he does really surprises me anymore.

Tony: Well, I think he was quite surprised with you yesterday.

Johnny: Well, he seems to have a hard time remembering that he can’t just steamroll over me.

Tony: Yes, well, I think he’s gonna remember yesterday for quite a while. But, Johnny, I know that you’re angry, so–

Johnny: Hey, listen, I actually came down here to talk to the two of you.

Anna: Really? Us?

Tony: About what?

Johnny: Uh, Uncle Jake. Ava and I are putting together a small memorial service for him at the crypt, and I was hoping the both of you would be there.

Tony: Oh, of course we will.

Johnny: I know Ava will really appreciate that.

Anna: Will it just be the four of us?

Johnny: Oh, no I’m inviting the whole family. In fact, I was about to call Gabi right now.

Shin: You hired Ava Vitali?

Gabi: Is that a problem?

Shin: I’m really not sure how my father’s going to feel about it.

Gabi: Well, from the way you’re making it seem, it’s– he’s not gonna be too happy. But maybe you can bring him around to the idea? Because after the board meeting yesterday, I didn’t have much of a choice. I need all the support I can get. I mean, look at this. These numbers are not what they should be.

Shin: Gabi, before you go back to work, there’s something I want to talk to you about.

[Cell phone rings]

Gabi: Oh, wait, hold that thought, one second. It’s Johnny DiMera.

[Phone beeps]

Ava: What can I do for you, EJ?

EJ: Oh, I’d like to talk about you, your state of mind, how you’re using my son.

Ava: Your son has been nothing but kind to me ever since I moved in here. And I realize that you may not understand why someone would do such a thing without wanting anything in return, but he does.

EJ: He’s naive. He thinks you’re here as a grieving widow, but you and I know the truth.

Ava: What I know is that my husband is dead.

EJ: Do you?

Ava: And here we go again.

EJ: [Chuckles] Just the other day, you were convinced that he dropped by for a visit.

Ava: Oh, you really can’t let that go, can you? Huh? I mean, even after your little power play cost you your relationship with your son?

EJ: I’m not gonna let it go. Because I’m going to prove that you’re unstable.

Ava: Okay, well, good luck with that because I am as sane as you are.

EJ: Maybe right now. But it’s only a matter of time before you start seeing him again. And when you do, Mr. Shin will have no choice but to demand Gabi fire you. And then we’ll pack up all your things and ship you off to Bayview with all the other loonies.

Kristen: Why isn’t he coming to?

Rolf: We are not starting a car. It’ll take a few minutes for the sedative to wear off.

Kristen: Well, we don’t have time to waste. The sooner he wakes up, the sooner he can go find the woman he loves.

Stefan: The woman… I love.

Kristen: [Chuckles] Yes, yes, that’s right. Now you can go find the woman you love.

Rolf: Chloe. Do you know who that is?

Kristen: Okay, Stefan? Stefan. Hey, talk to me. Do you know where you are?

Stefan: Your lab. I woke up here.

Kristen: [Sighs] Okay. Yes, that is right. You’ve been here for some time.

Stefan: Four years. I died. Got a new heart.

Rolf: Exactly. Everyone thought you were dead. You ashes were even interred in the DiMera crypt.

Kristen: Who cares what happened when everyone thought he was dead. All that matters is he is alive. And now he can go home to his love. [Sighs]

Stefan: Chloe.

Kristen: Yes, yes, yes, okay. Stefan, that’s right. That’s right. You and Chloe were together before you died. And now, now you can get up out of this bed, Stefan, and go climb into hers.

Ava: I’m not going to Bayview ’cause there’s nothing wrong with me.

EJ: [Chuckles] Oh, come on, Ava, do you think you can simply will yourself not to go crazy when you keep seeing your dead husband? I don’t actually have to lift a finger against you because you’re cracking up from the inside out.

Ava: Okay, you know? You can just go.

EJ: I actually think these apparitions are like Banquo’s Ghost. You’re not seeing Jake because you miss him. It’s guilt. You’re using his death for your personal gain. Add that to the strain of living here and having to pretend that you’re not thrilled that he got murdered– the strain of pushing down the impulse to shout out, “Hallelujah, I’m rich.”

Ava: Okay, you know what? Maybe I should call Johnny and have him escort you out of my room.

EJ: But I’m not telling you anything that you don’t know already, am I? You and I know that it will only be a matter of time before you see him again.

Ava: I need to get ready for my husband’s memorial service, which Johnny so graciously arranged.

EJ: Oh, little Johnny. He’s just so full of ideas, isn’t he? Oh, say hi to Jake for me next time you see him. Okay.

Ava: [Sighs]

Gabi: Yeah, thank you, Johnny, I’ll be there.

Shin: Be where?

Gabi: Johnny is putting together a memorial service for Jake. I told him I’d go. I mean, I do want to pay my respects.

Shin: But?

Gabi: But it’s in the DiMera crypt. And I haven’t been there since after Stefan died.

Shin: Gabi, if it’s too painful, you don’t have to go. Everyone would understand.

Gabi: Oh, I’m going. I’d just like you to go with me.

Brady: But you told Kristen you were going to testify.

Chloe: I did–I mean, Kristen’s been insulting me, barking orders at me, threatening me, and I just wanted to shut her up and push back. That’s why I told her I’m gonna take the stand. And the truth is, there’s a big part of me that really wants to–

Brady: Wants to fight back.

Chloe: Yeah, and I’m so sorry.

Brady: No, it’s o–no, no. Don’t, that’s crazy. I mean, how long has Kristen been terrorizing you? What, like– you know, belle seems to think that when she threatened you with that letter opener it was calculated. She’s been trying to rip us up as a couple. She wants to turn Rachel against you without any regard whatsoever what it does to her own daughter. Who does that? I say, get on the stand, testify, and make sure that she goes back Statesville where she belongs.

[Door clicks]

Kristen: [Sighs] Well, Stefan is changing into the suit I brought. I got it from Jake’s closet. I thought it would fit, given that they’re twins.

Rolf: Did he say anything else about Chloe?

Kristen: No. But your treatment obviously worked. He’s getting dressed right now to go find her.

Rolf: Or because you gave him no choice. I’ve told you many times, if there’s only one conditioning session, there’s no guarantee we’ve successfully weaned him from Gabi and moved him onto Chloe.

Kristen: But he didn’t seem to remember trying to get back to Gabi the other day. That’s a good sign, right? And I’m sure he can’t wait to sweep Chloe off her feet. Right?

Rolf: I’m sorry, Ms. DiMera, I’m just not sure this is going to work the way you want it to.

Kristen: [Sighs]

Chloe: Well, I’m glad that you got that out. But you do see that that’s exactly how Kristen wants you to behave in that court tomorrow?

Brady: Yeah.

Chloe: Just now, she provoked me on purpose ’cause she knew it would set you off. But we cannot play her games, all right? We have to do what’s right. We have to do what’s best for Rachel.

Brady: What’s best for Rachel, and that is?

Chloe: That is… I think that I should not testify tomorrow. I mean, Belle said that the worst-case scenario is that you will have to share custody. And if that happens, then we’ll have to live with that. And it’ll give Rachel the time and space she needs to heal from all this madness. Listen, you and I, we’re in it for the long game. And some day, Rachel will see how much I love her and you.

Brady: I love you, like, so much.

Chloe: I am pretty great, aren’t I?

Brady: You are pretty– you’re more than that. You are way more than that.

[Soft music]

Shin: You want me to go with you? I mean, isn’t this service just for the family? I’m not sure the DiMeras would want me there.

Gabi: This DiMera wants you there. I mean, you and Jake were friends. And I need you by my side.

Shin: In that case, of course I’ll go. And.. I’m really glad to hear you feel that way.

Stefan: So aside from the hair, how do I look?

Kristen: Mm, perfect. Chloe is gonna be so happy to see you.

Stefan: Mm, Chloe.

Rolf: Stefan… You remember Chloe?

Stefan: Chloe. Lane.

Kristen: [Sighs] Right. And now you are ready to win her back. Now you need to get to the Salem Inn right now. Hm? This is her room number. You’re gonna go to the room, knock on the door, and you are gonna show her how much you love her.

Stefan: Right. Right.

Brady: You know, thanks to you, I’m feeling better about tomorrow.

Chloe: Just remember, we have to keep asking ourselves what’s best for Rachel.

Brady: Yeah.

[Knock at door] Really?

[Grunts]

[Sighs] Wh–

Kristen: [Gasps] Brady?

Brady: Yeah. Were you expecting someone else?

[Soft music]

Gabi: You’re surprised I want you by my side?

Shin: I’m glad to know that you really care about me

Gabi: Of course I do, Li.

Shin: Good. Because, as I was saying before, there’s something I want to talk to you about.

Gabi: Li? Wha–oh. What are you doing?

Shin: I’m asking you to marry me.

Tony: Do you think EJ will go to the service?

Anna: Oh, I doubt it But he certainly should. After everything Johnny has been through this year, and how close EJ came to losing him, you’d– you would think they’d both realize how important family is.

Tony: The trouble is, too many outsiders have driven our family apart. And if EJ and Johnny keep butting heads over Ava, well, things are just not going to end well.

EJ: So I understand you planned a memorial service for Jake.

Johnny: I think everyone should have a chance to say goodbye to him.

EJ: Under normal circumstances, I’d agree. But I must say I am concerned about Ava.

Johnny: Yeah, yeah, I could see how much when you attacked her at the board meeting and then told her to move out of the house.

EJ: I’m not going to apologize for trying to protect you from her.

Johnny: She’s not a threat.

EJ: You know, you don’t see it, but when people are drowning, they very often end up dragging down the people who are trying to help them.

Johnny: Wow. You are unbelievable.

EJ: And you think you know all the answers. Are you sure this memorial service is a good idea? Are you sure Ava is strong enough to handle this? [Gasps] What if she cracks under the pressure?

Johnny: Shh.

Marlena: Oh, I’m sorry. I’m just trying to catch up with some work emails.

John: [Sighs] Work can wait.

Marlena: Wait for what?

John: Sweetheart, orpheus just put you through a hell of an ordeal, and you made me a promise that you would do nothing today except let me spoil you.

Marlena: I did?

John: Yes, you did, and I’m holding you to it. Commencing with operation spoil marlena.

[Laughs]

Marlena: [Sighs]

Kate: Eric, eric. Could you put this behind the bar for me?

Eric: Sure, what is it?

Kate: It’s a birthday cake for your dad.

Eric: [Laughs] It’s a bit late. It was yesterday.

Kate: Yeah, I know that because I organized a birthday party for him that was derailed after I was kidnapped and almost murdered.

[Sighs]

Stephanie: Thanks.

Abe: Hm.

Stephanie: Mm, good coffee.

Abe: Ah.

Paulina: It’s mine.

Stephanie: Yours?

Paulina: I own the brand and the farm where the coffee beans are grown.

Stephanie: I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.

Abe: [Laughs] Well, thank you for coming, stephanie.

Stephanie: Oh, of course. It’s a lovely apartment.

Paulina: Well, I wanted our meeting to be a bit more casual. Not to mention safe. Last time we all got together, your father mistook me for that maniac orpheus, and john black almost tackled me to the ground.

Stephanie: Yeah. My father can be overzealous.

[Soft music]

Kayla: This is where orpheus was holding us hostage.

Steve: You sure you’re okay being back here, kayla?

Kayla: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I’m fine.

Jada: Can you show me exactly where you were being held?

Kayla: He had us– he had us chained to these three chairs.

Steve: And this– this is what’s left of the bomb he set. The timer was ticking. I cut the wires to diffuse it.

Kayla: With only seconds to spare.

Steve: That’s right.

Jada: You’re real proud of yourself, aren’t you?

Steve: Sorry?

Jada: You know I respect you, steve, I do, but what the hell were you thinking?

Rolf: Yes, mr. Shin. I’m finally beginning to have success at suppressing stefan dimera’s feelings for your beloved gabi hernandez. And amplifying his desire for chloe lane is looking promising as well.

[Chuckles]

[Footsteps] Oh, I’m sorry. I seem to have a visitor, but I’m sure it’s kristen here to ask me to resurrect her brother. Yes, I know it doesn’t suit your purposes yet. Don’t worry. I’ll put her off. Yeah, I’ll talk to you later.

[Phone beeps]

Orpheus: Hello, rolf. What’s wrong? Aren’t you happy to see your old pal, orpheus?

[Soft orchestration]

Rolf: Orpheus, this is a pleasant surprise.

Orpheus: You might want to relay that message to your face.

Rolf: Sorry, I’m just not used to having company. Tell me, how did you find my secret lab?

Orpheus: Secret?

[Laughs] I don’t think there should be secrets between friends, do you? No, secrets can lead to distrust, which can lead to misunderstandings, and that can lead to bad blood. And we wouldn’t want that, would we?

John: [Sighs] Nice.

Marlena: [Laughs]

John: Okay. Operation spoil marlena, stage two.

Marlena: And what do you have there?

John: In my hand, you might ask. Well, I’ll tell you. I have an aromatic, organic, magic massage lotion.

Marlena: Ooh. Magic, you say?

John: Oh. Now, if you have spent days tied up and handcuffed to a chair, and your muscles are just screaming for a little tlc, look no further because I am here to help you. So, pretty lady, all you have to do is lie back and let this magic massage lotion do the trick on your neck, on your back.

Marlena: Oh, but wait.

Eric: Orpheus was gonna blow you up?

Kate: All three of us.

Eric: How am I just now hearing about this? I mean, you must’ve been terrified.

Kate: Yeah, we were.

Eric: But you’re all okay. How’s my mom?

Kate: Yeah, no, she’s fine, kayla’s fine, but you know, we wouldn’t have been if they hadn’t rescued us.

Eric: John and steve.

Kate: Ah, there he is. And my own personal hero.

Roman: [Chuckles]

Kayla: Steve was a hero. He saved all of our lives.

Jada: It sounds to me like he and his pals nearly got you all blown to bits.

Kayla: Only they didn’T.

Jada: Because they got lucky.

Steve: Well, that’s not entirely true.

Jada: We have something called a bomb squad. They are highly trained to handle this type of situation.

Steve: Okay, well, in my experience with the isa–

Jada: I hate to be the one to remind you. You are no longer in the isa.

Steve: That doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten how to operate.

Jada: Yeah, my father told me stories on how you used to operate.

Steve: Is that so?

Jada: How many times have you nearly gotten yourself killed? Or better yet, kayla, how many times has he almost gotten you killed?

Kayla: That’s not fair.

Jada: But you know it’s true. The second the three of you were kidnapped, your husband should’ve picked up the phone and called the police and let us do our job. But no, he always has to be the one to save the day.

Steve: [Sighs]

Stephanie: I have plenty of issues with my dad being overprotective.

Paulina: It’s all right. I get that way about my daughters too. Anyway, let’s–enough about what happened with that creepy orpheus. I want to discuss the reason we invited you over.

Stephanie: The governor’s race.

Paulina: Now, I know you’ve been quietly putting out feelers to see how abe’s candidacy would be received.

Stephanie: And I have results.

Paulina: Well, not that I need to see them. You know, if you ask me, this whole thing is a total waste of time and money.

Stephanie: Why is that?

Paulina: Because everybody loves abe. The state would be lucky to have him running it.

Stephanie: That may be so, but I’m afraid we have a problem.

Paulina: What? What kind of problem? This is the sound of better breathing.

Paulina: It looks like abe has a lot of positives here.

Stephanie: And very few negatives. The majority of likely voters appreciate what they know about him.

Abe: So what’s the problem?

Stephanie: The problem is that support shows vulnerability when specific questions are asked. The numbers are softer than I expected.

Paulina: I know this man better than anyone, and soft is not a word that comes to mind now, so if you think that you’re going to come in here and tell us that–

Abe: Paulina. We are paying stephanie to do the research, so let’s hear her out.

Paulina: [Groans] Fine, go ahead.

Stephanie: Once I got the initial results, I decided to dive deeper. So I conducted some more pointed focus groups.

Abe: And what did you learn?

Paulina: No, they love– they love him.

Stephanie: But no matter how we tried to steer the conversation, people just didn’t really want to talk about you.

Abe: Well, what did they want to talk about?

Paulina: Oh, no, me? I’m dragging you down. Oh, marlena and john, they told me I might be a problem.

Abe: No, no, that is not what they said.

Paulina: It all makes sense. All the scandals, price-town, and lani, my arrest for shooting ray.

Stephanie: Paulina.

Paulina: No, no, no. There is only one way to fix this mess, abraham, and restore your reputation. I want a divorce.

Marlena: Hmm.

Roman: Yeah, well, I’m sorry you just hearing about the kidnappings, but orpheus said if we told anyone that we would never see kate, kayla, or your mom again.

Eric: No, I’m talking about the two of you right here. Did this ordeal kind of bring you back together?

Roman: Uh, no. It started before that.

Kate: Well, I mean, actually, I–what happened is that I finally took responsibility for my part in lucas kidnapping your sister.

Roman: So I forgave her, and so did allie and your mom.

Eric: Hmm.

Kate: And you know, while I’m being contrite, I’d like to offer up another apology, actually.

Eric: And what’s that?

Kate: [Clears throat] Well, the last time I saw you, I was really pushing hard for you to get back with nicole, and that was a mistake. It was. I’m sorry. And I’d just like to say that what I’d really like for you is to find the happiness that I’ve found with your dad.

Roman: Maybe he already has.

Steve: Look, jada, I know you think we put lives at risk because we didn’t follow protocol, but for your information, orpheus threatened us. We were not to contact anyone, especially the police. And orpheus is not one to make idle threats.

Jada: I know all about orpheus, and his past, and his vendetta against you.

Kayla: Well, then you have to understand why steve felt he had to act quickly.

Jada: The issue is that, if you would’ve kept us in the loop, we would have that psychopath in custody right now, but instead, he’s out there, and who knows what he’ll do next.

Steve: [Sighs]

Rolf: I must ask you not to touch that apparatus or anything else in my lab.

Orpheus: You doing some important work, are you?

Rolf: All of my research is important, and that particular experiment is quite sensitive.

Orpheus: Far be it for me to stand in the way of science.

Rolf: Thank you.

Orpheus: But aren’t we forgetting that I am the one who put the screws to the governor? That I– that I got you included in those pardons.

Rolf: And I am very grateful.

Orpheus: Ah, good, good.

[Chuckles] But now that our paths have crossed again–

Rolf: I’m not sure that I would put it that way, and not to be impolite, but I’m quite busy.

[Chuckles] So– your current pet project taking up a lot of your time, is it?

Rolf: You heard about it?

Orpheus: Indeed. So why don’t you show me what all the buzz is about?

Orpheus: It’s okay, wilhelm. You don’t have to worry about me seeing what you’re hiding because I already know. The world is full of make or break moments.

Stephanie: Paulina–

Abe: Getting a divorce.

Paulina: I’m not saying it would be permanent. I’m just saying that you get some distance from me and my scandals, and then when you’re elected governor, we get remarried quietly.

Abe: Sweetheart, when did you ever do anything quietly?

Paulina: Stephanie, you do see the merits of this plan?

Stephanie: Actually, I should’ve been clearer. Paulina, your scores weren’t lower than abe’S. They were higher.

Stephanie: Not all voters can count, but their votes do.

Stephanie: Frankly, the qualities that people ascribe to paulina strongly correlate to those of winning candidates in the last six election cycles.

Paulina: Well, what words did abe get?

Stephanie: Also positive ones. “Honesty,” “trustworthy,” “integrity.”

Paulina: Yeah, well, those are good, right?

Stephanie: Sure.

Paulina: Well, what’s wrong with them?

Stephanie: Well, those words are–

Abe: Boring.

Stephanie: Well, I wouldn’t say that. It’s just some people may consider you too nice to hold public office, at least on the state level, no offense.

Abe: Yeah, none taken.

Stephanie: The way the world is these days, people are looking for someone who will do what it takes to get things done.

Paulina: Are you suggesting that we give up the campaign?

Stephanie: No, I am not saying that at all.

Paulina: So you do think that abraham should run for governor.

Stephanie: Oh, I didn’t say that either.

Abe: She’s saying that my wife should.

Stephanie: That’s what I’m saying, and, paulina, I think you’d win.

Kate: What? There’s a new woman in the picture?

Eric: I’m not discussing this.

Roman: Oh, come on. We don’t need to keep secrets from kate.

Eric: There isn’t a secret.

Kate: Oh, what is the not a secret then?

Roman: Well, eric said it got pretty hot upstairs in my new tenant’s room.

Eric: All right, stop. I was just fixing jada’s ac.

Roman: Oh, okay, so that’s what you were doing?

Kate: Well, wait, wait.

Eric: Mm-hmm.

Kate: You and the new detective are sleeping together?

Eric: [Sighs]

Jada: [Chuckles]

Rolf: [Laughs] You’re bluffing. You don’t know anything.

Orpheus: I don’t bluff, doctor.

Rolf: Then what is it you think you know, hmm?

Orpheus: Well, I know that you resurrected stefano dimera’s son, stefan O. Dimera. I bet he’s back there, lying sedated behind this curtain with a bunch of wires hooked into him. I mean, I can only assume you’re brainwashing the poor soul.

Rolf: [Scoffs] Brainwashing is such an old-fashioned term.

Orpheus: Oh, yeah? What would you call it?

Rolf: If you must know, I’m conditioning him.

Orpheus: [Laughs] Conditioning him, okay. Conditioning him to do what exactly?

Rolf: It’s really none of your business.

Orpheus: Ah, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Is that it? It’s hard to do, considering he was once dead and now he’s alive.

Rolf: What is your interest in this project?

Orpheus: Oh, mere curiosity. Oh, I have my own project to keep me occupied.

Rolf: And what project is that?

Orpheus: It’s simple. My objective is to bring as much pain and suffering as possible to steve johnson, roman brady, and most of all, john black.

Marlena: John, can we just forget this whole nightmare and get back to our lives?

John: Oh.

[Sighs]

Marlena: John?

John: Sweetheart, you have no idea how much I wish we could do just that.

Marlena: Well, why can’t we?

John: It’s simple. Orpheus is still out there.

Marlena: [Chuckles] I know, but, you know, you’ve got the whole salem pd, and you’ve got the fbi chasing him. They’ll find him, then they’ll lock him up, and they’ll throw away the key.

John: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I hope you’re right.

Marlena: I know I’m right. You know why?

John: Why’s that?

Marlena: Because when you rescued me from orpheus, you took me in your arms, and you said to me, “it’s over. It’s all over.”

John: Yeah, I know I did.

Marlena: Don’t you believe it?

John: At that moment, that challenge was over, but you and I both know, orpheus doesn’t give up that easily.

Marlena: Oh, do you think he’s planning something?

John: I just don’t think it. I know it, doc. I just don’t know what the hell it is. As someone living with type 2 diabetes,

Roman: Jada, you don’t have to answer kate’s question.

Jada: Actually, I wasn’t about to.

Roman: Well, of course you weren’t, and just so you know, I don’t make it a policy to gossip about my tenants or anyone else.

Kate: Okay, so obviously, this is on me because I was curious, and unlike roman, I do gossip every once in a while. Sorry. I’m kate dimera.

Eric: This is my dad’s girlfriend. Off and on, and apparently, on again.

Kate: Okay. It’s very nice to meet you, jada.

Jada: You too. So you’re one of orpheus’ victims.

Kate: I prefer to think about it as one of orpheus’ survivors.

Rolf: As you know, there’s no love lost between myself and the objects of your malevolence.

Orpheus: [Chuckles] Yes, no one hated john, roman, and steve quite like your old boss, stefano.

Rolf: True, so I wish you luck with your endeavors, but I must return to my work.

Orpheus: Your work means everything to you.

Rolf: It does.

Orpheus: So much so, in fact, that you’re willing to revel in your genius by keeping samples of some of your more extraordinary medical achievements.

Rolf: [Scoffs] I’m not sure to what you’re referring.

Orpheus: Oh, come on now. This isn’t just a lab, doctor. This is practically a museum, a monument to you and your work.

Rolf: Oh, I wouldn’t say that.

Orpheus: [Chuckles] Come now, wilhelm. I bet if I were to rifle through your drawers and cabinets, oh, I’d find all sorts of interesting things. The serum that revived so many of the denizens of this miserable town. The drug that restored their banal memories. Perhaps even a chip that can save one’s consciousness. And that’s just a few of your greatest hits.

Rolf: It’s an intriguing theory, but it’s only speculation.

Orpheus: Mm-hmm. I would be willing to state categorically that you are saving some of these oldies but goodies right here, under this one roof.

Rolf: And how would you know that?

Orpheus: Because this isn’t my first visit to your secret laboratory, doctor. I’ve been here before, and I’ve seen everything there is to see.

Steve: My only regret is that I didn’t neutralize orpheus before he had a chance to hurt you.

Kayla: You know what? You need to stop beating yourself up over all this. You saved my life again. And I’m here, and I’m safe.

Steve: Yeah, but he–

Kayla: Yeah, yeah, but– listen, you can keep talking or you can shut up, and kiss me, and let me thank you properly for saving my life.

Steve: That’s not a tough choice–

Roman: Jada, I didn’t have a choice, all right? That son of a bitch, orpheus, threatened to hurt kate, kayla, and marlena unless we kept quiet and played his game.

Jada: Yeah, steve gave me the same story, but roman, you used to be the police commissioner. I would think you would have more trust in the salem pd.

Roman: Like I just said, it didn’t have a damn thing to do about trusting the police.

Jada: No. It was about you going rogue with john black and steve johnson, your cowboy pals.

Kayla: So you heard about the kidnapping.

Stephanie: Just came through as an alert on my news app.

Steve: Oh, baby, I’m sorry you had to hear about it that way.

Stephanie: You’re sorry? You told me mom and marlena were at a medical conference.

Steve: Yes, I know. I would’ve shared the news with you, but–

Stephanie: But what?

Kayla: Listen, both of you, your father had a very good reason that he had to keep you in the dark.

Stephanie: Let me guess. He was trying to protect me.

Steve: No, actually, I was trying to protect your mother, and kate, and marlena. John and I were instructed not to tell the police or anyone.

Kayla: That’s the truth. And listen, the thing you need to take away from this is that orpheus tried to hurt us again, he but failed. And we are here, and we’re safe, all of us. All of us are safe.

Stephanie: [Sighs]

Rolf: You were in my lab?

Orpheus: While you were out, I embarked on a self-tour.

Rolf: You shouldn’t have done that.

Orpheus: Yes, I must admit, I was disappointed not to find a horde of marlena clones stuffed in your broom closet, but I was thrilled by what I found locked in that steel cabinet behind you.

Rolf: You were in this cabinet?

Orpheus: And once I saw it, I knew that I’d found exactly what I needed to destroy the lives of my enemies.

John: Like I just said, sweetheart. I can’t promise you what’s coming next, but I can promise you that I will always protect you no matter what orpheus tries.

Marlena: I’m not afraid of orpheus.

John: Oh, of course, why wouldn’t you be? I mean, he only tried to blow you up again.

Marlena: How many times has he tried to match wits with us?

John: More than I can count.

Marlena: Mm-hmm. And what happens every time? Who wins?

John: We do.

Marlena: Yeah. We always will because I have you.

John: And you.

Marlena: And besides, orpheus would never try to harm a single hair on your head because if he did, he would have me to deal with.

John: Wow. You know, doc, I really love you when you are soft and compassionate, but I really love you when you’re tough and angry like that.

Marlena: Ooh, you do?

[Both laugh]

Marlena: Mm. Research shows that people remember ads with young people

Paulina: Abraham, I don’t know why we’re entertaining this. I mean, me, governor?

Abe: Makes sense to me.

Paulina: How?

Abe: From the beginning, paulina, this quest was your idea. I wasn’t even sure I wanted to run, but you pressured me, and you recruited my friends.

Paulina: Because I believe in you, baby.

Abe: Well, I believe in you too, paulina.

Paulina: You know this is crazy, right?

Abe: These numbers, they don’t lie. Now, you talk a lot about wanting to do good to make up for your mistakes by helping people. Now, paulina price can do a lot of good in the world. You can make the world a better place just like you made my world a better place.

Paulina: Governor.

Abe: The universe– the universe is sending you a message. You need to answer it.

Kayla: There you go. Where are you coming from?

Stephanie: I had a meeting with paulina and abe.

Steve: Oh, well, I hope they’ve forgiven me my vigilance.

Stephanie: Well, they understand the threat that orpheus poses to our family, and now so do I.

Stephanie: I checked in on sonny, by the way. They told me, he’s going to make it.

Kayla: His condition is guarded, but he’s fought through the worst.

Stephanie: Thank god. Of course, victor’s giving me a hard time about how this may look for titan.

Steve: Well, that’s the victor we know and love. Family first as long as it doesn’t affect the bottom line.

Stephanie: Yes. Well, I do have to get back to some work.

Kayla: Why don’t you stay for lunch?

Stephanie: It’s a little late for lunch.

Steve: Well, let’s call it an early dinner. I’ve got some really nice steaks in the fridge there. I can throw them on the grill. Come on. We’ve got a lot to celebrate.

Roman: [Chuckles] No offense, jada, but you’ve been in salem about five minutes.

Jada: Well, I’ve been a cop a lot longer than that.

Roman: Yeah, well, salem is a different animal.

Jada: What does that mean?

Eric: It means you’re gonna have to get used to private citizens going rogue here.

Kate: Oh, yeah. I can confirm that in this town, people do play hero.

Roman: Nobody was playing anything.

Kate: Well, no, of course not, you are a hero, honey. I was just telling eric when you walked in. I’m lucky to have him, detective.

Jada: Well, in my professional opinion, you’re lucky he and his buddies didn’t get you all blown to kingdom come, but, you know, we’ll just have to agree to disagree.

Roman: Works for me.

Eric: Hey, can I get you something to eat?

Jada: No, I just came to look over some files in my room.

Kate: Hey, no. Why don’t you stay? I brought a great, big cake in here for roman’s birthday.

Eric: [Laughs]

Roman: You did?

Kate: Mm-hmm. And I don’t think eric can sing loud enough to drown out my horrible singing.

Roman: No singing, all right? I don’t want a fuss.

Eric: No, no, no. You don’t get to decide what kind of fuss we make about you, all right? You can grumble all you want, but it’s your birthday, so we’re gonna celebrate it right. Hey, jada.

Jada: Well, I do love cake.

Eric: Hmm.

Jada: Happy birthday, cowboy.

John: Mm.

Marlena: Ooh.

John: [Sighs] Okay. I wonder what I can do for you.

[Both laugh]

Marlena: Or shall we see what that magic lotion can do?

John: You have any road map on where I should begin?

Marlena: Oh, yeah. Why don’t you start with my neck and just see where you end up.

John: [Laughs]

Rolf: I’m sorry, but what you found in that cabinet is not available for your or anyone else’s use.

Orpheus: Seriously? You can put down the blade, pal. I have no intention of taking the vial that you locked in that cabinet.

Rolf: Can I trust you on that?

Orpheus: Absolutely. I have no need to take it because I’ve already got it.

It’s started. Somewhere between a cuddle

Paulina: So you really think I could win.

Abe: I have learned to never doubt you.

Paulina: So– we’re doing this.

Abe: We’re doing this.

Paulina: Good lord, oh. We’re doing this.

Abe: Yes, we are, madam governor price.

Paulina: I’m not gonna lie to you. I like the sound of that.

Abe: [Laughs] Oh.

Paulina: Ooh.

[Both laugh]

Rolf: Be careful. Please be careful with that vial. Set it down.

Orpheus: Okay.

Rolf: Nice and easy.

Orpheus: Just relax, relax. Whatever you say.

Rolf: Be very gentle.

Orpheus: No need to panic, doc, it’s empty.

Rolf: You mean–

Orpheus: I’ve already used its contents.

Kate: Hey!

Roman: [Laughs] Thank you.

Jada: Your voice isn’t terrible at all. It’s actually really lovely.

Kate: Oh, no–you are so sweet, thank you. Okay, so make a wish and blow out your candle.

Roman: Well, I already got my wish, so this is just a formality, all right?

Kate: [Sneezes]

Stephanie: What’s this deliciousness?

Steve: This is my famous black pepper crusted ribeye.

Kayla: Mm, famous for occasionally having too much black pepper.

Steve: Oh, you can never have too much black pepper.

Kayla: [Sneezes]

Steve: Bless you.

Kayla: Ah.

[Clears throat]

Marlena: [Sneezes]

John: Whoa, bless you, sweetheart.

John: Hey, you’re not getting sick, are you, honey?

[Sneezes]

Rolf: The vial– you didn’T.

Orpheus: Oh, yes. I did. I know that john, roman, and steve are very proud of their heroics, but in truth, they only delayed the deaths of marlena, kate, and kayla. In fact, right now, I’m sure they’re celebrating their health, but soon, very soon, they’ll wish they’d let that bomb go off.

Sarah: [Laughs] Uh, I have decided to make an appointment with my old department head at the hospital. Hoping to get reinstated there.

Sarah: Well, let’s hope that he and the board feel that way. I have to convince them that everything that I went through didn’t change what kind of doctor I am. Just gonna start getting my old life back.

Xander: Well, if what you want is your old life back, we could finally get married.

Sarah: Mm, you just let me know what day, and I will be there.

Xander: Well, how does today sound?

Jennifer: Jack, I didn’t hear you come in.

Jack: I know. Is something wrong?

Chad: What do you think you’re doing?

Melinda: Looking for paperwork on a case that I’m prosecuting, not that it’s any of your business.

Chad: I’m sorry, the man who murdered my wife and stabbed my best friend is walking around free, and you’re looking through papers?

Melinda: Okay, believe me, I share your frustration, mr. Dimera, but commissioner hernandez is on this case personally.

Chad: He is?

Melinda: That’s right, and i just found out that he knows where leo stark is hiding out.

Chad: For real?

Melinda: He should be putting mr. Stark in handcuffs as we speak.

Rafe: I checked the parking lot and the entire building. Leo was gone long before we got her.

Sloan: I don’t understand. He promised he’d wait for me.

Rafe: Did he? Because I’m guessing that he knew I was coming, and that’s why he left in such a hurry.

Sloan: I don’t know how he would know that. It’s not like I tipped him off.

Rafe: Stop lying to me. Stop lying, because you were the only one who knew. You double-crossed me, counselor.

Sloan: What? No, I didn’T. I–I wouldn’T.

[Machines beeping]

Sonny: Are you a nurse?

Leo: Bitch, please. It’s me.

Sonny: Why are you dressed like a nurse?

Leo: It’s not a fashion statement, I’ll tell you that. It was the only way I could get in here to see you.

Sonny: What is–what am i doing here? What happened?

Leo: You don’t remember somebody stabbing you in the back?

Leo: Think, sonny, I’m counting on you. I need you to tell me who did this to you.

Leo: Come on, out with it.

[Soft orchestration]

Leo: No, no, no! You are confused, and for once, it’s semi forgivable. Just take some deep breaths and think hard.

Sonny: You snuck in here so you could finish me off.

Leo: Sonny, I did not stab you, and I am not here to hurt you.

Sonny: [Groans] But you were there.

Leo: Yes, yes I came to your office saying that I wanted to declare a truce between us, and you agreed, sort of, and then I left. I only came back because I needed my parking ticket validated. It is criminal what titan charges for parking.

Sonny: More criminal than trying to kill me?

Leo: Sweetheart, when I came back, you were on the floor with a knife in your back. Somebody came in after I left the first time, and that someone stabbed you. Please, sonny, my life is on the line here. Don’t tell me you don’t remember who that someone was.

Melinda: There is no doubt in my mind that leo stark murdered your wife, and then he made an attempt on sonny kiriakis’ life too. So you can be confident that his prosecution begins the moment commissioner hernandez brings mr. Stark in here in handcuffs.

Chad: Can I hang around? I’d like to see that with my own two eyes.

Melinda: Yeah, I don’t have a problem with that.

Chad: If it is leo, what happens to gwen rizczech, his partner in crime.

Melinda: Rest easy. She’s still in custody.

Gwen: Not anymore.

[Dramatic music]

Xander: Come on, we’d be an old married couple by now if it wasn’t for gwen.

Sarah: Mm, I still can’t believe that she tried to make it seem like I killed abigail. She’s still obsessed with you. I hope you know that.

Xander: Yeah, well, let’s prove to her and whole rest of the world that she can’t keep us apart anymore. I mean, after everything we’ve been through, I don’t want to wait another minute.

Sarah: Mm.

Xander: And it’s not like gwen can get in our way now. She’s locked up.

Sarah: Would be a shame to waste such an opportunity.

Xander: Right?

Xander: So is that a yes? Can I get your mom on the phone?

Sarah: Could we maybe put it off for a little longer?

Jennifer: A lot of things are wrong, jack. You know it as well as I do.

Jack: I’m talking about those pills in your hand.

Jennifer: I’m glad you didn’t see me going through doug and julie’s medicine cabinet trying to find the empty one. I had to lie through my teeth to get the pharmacist to refill it.

[Sighs] These? I’ve been having headaches. Kayla gave me prescription-strength ibuprofen.

Jack: You didn’t tell me about the headaches.

Jennifer: Well, you’ve had enough going on.

Jack: Well, I’ll just get you some water so you can take one of those.

Jennifer: Oh, no, you don’t have to. Just seeing you makes me feel much better.

Jack: Mm.

Jennifer: I don’t need a pill.

Jack: [Sighs] Ah. Jennifer, there’s something I have to tell you.

Jennifer: Well, from the look on your face, I’d say it’s not good. What now?

Jack: I hired a lawyer to represent gwen.

Melinda: I don’t know how you’ve managed this, but don’t go anywhere.

[Phone beeps]

Chad: How’d you get out of your cell?

Melinda: There’s not a single officer in the squad room, and a prisoner has escaped.

Gwen: I did not escape.

Chad: Yeah, then how’d you get here?

Gwen: Sonny kiriakis was stabbed last night, and I was locked up, so my lawyer convinced the judge that there is evidence of a connection between abigail’s death and sonny’s stabbing and that what leo said to the police was just to frame me for something that he did. You let leo go to go after sonny. Well done. You know, you might want to advise the kiriakis family to sue the da’s office.

Melinda: Mr. Stark’s guilt does not prove your innocence, so don’t leave town.

Chad: Where are you going?

Melinda: To get answers from a more reliable source than her, and then I’m gonna fire the ada that blew this hearing this morning.

Chad: You must be feeling very pleased with yourself.

Gwen: I’m free because I’m innocent, and leo will be arrested, and then you will see that he was lying about me.

Rafe: How did you signal leo that I was coming with you?

Sloan: You heard my end of the phone call. I didn’t say a word about you. He must have figured it out on his own. You’re wasting your time doing that.

Rafe: Do you remember when i told you if you didn’t help me find leo, I was gonna charge you as an accessory? You are about two minutes from being in handcuffs.

Sloan: Oh, go for it. It’s a bogus charge, and it’s never gonna stick.

Rafe: It’s never gonna stick? You’re about to find out how sticky I can make things for you.

Sonny: Well, if you’re not trying to kill me, why are you still holding on to the call button?

Leo: Try being accused of murder sometime. It makes a person very cautious.

[Sighs] Look, sonny, I knew what I was risking by coming here, but i basically can’t trust anyone right now, not even my lawyer. You are the only one who can get me out of this jam

Sonny: I said we’d never be friends… but we’d leave each other alone. Something like that.

Leo: And then what?

Sonny: And then you left.

Leo: What ese?

Sonny: Then I sat down at my desk. A few minutes later, I had to get something from a filing cabinet, and my back was to the door, and then I heard a noise. I went to turn around, but then something hit me in the back, and I had, like, this… searing pain. And then that’s it. It just goes black.

Leo: You didn’t get a look, not even a little peek?

Sonny: I can’t clear you, leo. It could’ve been you.

Leo: Who it was is the person who is trying to frame me. If I did this, you think I would’ve left my list behind for the cops to find?

Sonny: Sorry, what list?

Leo: Oh. Okay, don’t take this the wrong way, but I made an enemies list.

Sonny: Oh, my god.

Leo: You were at the top, you and abigail and brady and chloe and everyone who put in the time and trouble to bust up craig and me.

Sonny: You had to make a list? You couldn’t just keep it in your head?

Leo: It was satisfying, all right? But somebody found that list, and they brought it to your office. Then they stabbed you, left it on your desk, and they crossed off your name and abigail’s name. I did not do that. Well, I did cross off abigail’S.

Sonny: You killed abigail?

Leo: Not because I killed her. Because she was dead, which does make a person less of a threat, and that’s not the point.

Sonny: Then what is your fricking point?

Leo: Somebody is trying to make me look like I’m a fricking serial killer! My asthma felt anything but normal.

Jennifer: So you hired a lawyer for gwen without talking to me first?

Jack: It was a kneejerk reaction. I’m so sorry. God knows you’d never do anything so major without telling me. But gwen couldn’t have stabbed sonny, so maybe she’s not lying when she said she didn’t kill abigail, and I couldn’t let her go back to prison for something that she didn’t do.

Jennifer: I guess not.

Jack: Jennifer… I made gwen a part of our lives. I asked you and abigail to accept her, and you both did. When I believed that gwen killed abigail… I didn’t even know how to face you. But you were understanding then, and I’m asking you to be understanding now.

Jennifer: So you feel that leo only pointed the finger at gwen to divert attention from himself?

Jack: He set her up, and I bought it. Everybody did. Look, she’s no saint, obviously, but she’s– she deserves a whole lot better than she got from me.

Jennifer: And you feel the need to make up for it.

Jack: That’s why I did what I did today. Please, jennifer, tell me that it’s okay. The last thing I want to do is make all of this harder for you than it already is.

Gwen: You must be wishing that my father left me in jail.

Chad: Something like that.

Gwen: I told you the truth when you came to see me. I didn’t kill abigail. Leo set me up.

Chad: Now don’t play the martyr. You can’t pull it off. I wouldn’t put it past you and leo to point the finger at each other just to muddy the case against either one of you.

Gwen: Okay, you believe that at your peril.

Chad: What peril?

Gwen: Do you remember, I told you that leo had made a list of all of his enemies. Now abigail is dead, sonny is in intensive care, and they were both on that list, and so are you. The da has put leo out on the streets at my expense. What if leo decides to come after you next?

Leo: I have been cutting you some slack because of the condition you’re in, but I don’t have all the time in the world. Are you gonna tell the cops I did this to you?

[Phone rings]

[Phone beeps]

Leo: I have laid this out for you in a very logical way, and you’re looking at this call button like it’s a lifeline.

Sonny: Gee, I wonder why. I regain consciousness, and the first thing I see is you dressed like a nurse from an R.L. Stine book. How do I know you don’t have a weapon in that padded bra?

Leo: If you remember last night, you remember that you and I kind of had a moment. Your big brother alex had just threatened to kill me, and I was scared. I begged you to tell him that you and I were okay. I practically got down on my knees, and I don’t do that for just anybody. Well, actually, I do, but not for apologies. Why would I put myself through all that and then bump you off? I would’ve cut to the chase and saved myself a lot of humiliation. Please, sonny, please tell me you get what I’m saying here.

[Door clicks]

Nurse: Mr. Kiriakis, you’re awake. No matter who you are,

Nurse: I have to let your doctor know that you’re making such good progress.

Leo: No need, hon. I’ve already done that. Doctor is on his way. Right, mr. Kiriakis?

Sloan: Straight to voicemail. Anything else I can do to prove that leo and i aren’t in cahoots.

Rafe: Okay, fine. Maybe he got spooked like you said, and maybe you set me up. All I know is that I was wrong to trust you because now leo stark is back on the streets, and my investigation is back to square one!

[Line trilling] Yeah, any word on the apb? Damn. No, I lost stark. Listen, set up a quadrant search using my location as a starting point. Okay. No, I’ll alert the da.

Melinda: [Sighs] Here, your personal affects. Everything you signed a receipt for is in there. Oh, except for the sarah mask. We’re keeping that as a souvenir.

Gwen: Oh, you have to let me go because you took the word of a born liar. You know what? Do me a favor, darling. How about you do a decent job this time? Get justice for this man and for his children. Nobody should have to suffer the way that they did.

[Soft dramatic music]

Gwen: [Sighs] Thank god this bloody nightmare is finally over for me.

Chad: Talk about a get out of jail free card.

Gwen: I see this as a sign to take hold of a new lease on life. But right now, there’s somebody that I need to thank.

Jennifer: I guess I understand why you’d do this for gwen. In your shoes, I’d probably do the same thing.

Jack: Thank you. Thank you.

[Doorbell rings] I– um…

Xander: Um, may we come in?

Jack: Yes, of course. Of course, please. Uh, jennifer, look who’s here.

Sarah: I hope we’re not intruding.

Jennifer: Oh, no, of course you’re not.

Xander: Obviously we know how bad things are for you right now. We just–I don’t know. That’s kind of why we were here. We thought maybe we could pick up your day a bit.

Jennifer: Oh, well, that would be wonderful.

Jack: So what’s up?

Xander: Jack, we’re finally doing it. We’re getting married today.

Jack: Today?

Jennifer: Oh!

Xander: We were hoping that the two of you might be our witnesses.

Jack: Well–

Jennifer: Oh.

Jack: That–we’d be honored.

Jennifer: We definitely would, oh!

Sarah: Really?

Jack: Yes.

Jennifer: It’s so wonderful to see people getting their lives back on track.

Jack: Thank you, sarah. So when and where?

Sarah: My mom is meeting us at city hall.

Xander: Yeah, we didn’t feel right asking her to use her house because everything with sonny.

Jennifer: Oh, why don’t you get married here?

Sarah: Really?

Jennifer: Yes. This is your family home.

Xander: Oh, well, we wouldn’t want to put you out.

Jack: You’re not, you’re not.

Jennifer: You’re definitely not. It would be a blessing to have a cause for celebration again.

Sarah: Okay, yeah, let’s do it.

Jack: All right!

Jennifer: Yay!

[Laughs] Wonderful.

Jack: Wonderful, yes.

Jennifer: I cannot believe this. You look so beautiful. Oh, you look so handsome. Oh, my gosh. Some days, it felt like asthma was holding me back.

Sonny: Nurse leona here is right. Uh, he called– she called my doctor, and he is on his way.

Nurse: Then it looks like you’re in good hands.

Sonny: Very.

[Soft dramatic music]

Leo: You believe me, don’t you?

Sonny: I better not regret this.

Leo: If you believe I didn’t do this to you, then you also believe I’m being framed.

Sonny: I do. And whoever it is, they seem to hate both of us.

Sloan: Did the da chew you out?

Rafe: Oh, yeah.

Sloan: Good.

Rafe: Okay, so leo took off about 45 minutes ago. He probably took oak street because it has the lightest traffic. Oh, my god, I’m such a moron.

Sloan: Wow, finally you say something I agree with.

Rafe: You know what else is on oak street? University hospital. Sonny’s in the icu there.

Sloan: Hernandez! Ugh. You still have my keys!

Maggie: Oh, let’s hope the third time is the charm. This wedding is long overdue.

Xander: Couldn’t agree more.

Maggie: So where is sarah?

Xander: Well, she said she needed to freshen up. I mean, I thought she looked perfect as she was.

Maggie: Well, maybe she wants to make a bit of an entrance. That’s the bride’s right, mm.

Jennifer: Aren’t these beautiful? We can put them all around.

Maggie: Okay, well, let me help you.

Jennifer: Oh, great.

Jack: I haven’t seen jennifer smile in a long time. Thanks for making us a part of this day.

Xander: Oh, you’re my mate. Wouldn’t be right without you here. I wanted to ask you the last time we tried to do this, but, you know, it was too soon.

[Sighs] What a bad day that turned out to be.

Jack: The only reason sarah was arrested was because of gwen. I am so sorry for all of that.

Xander: Hey, that wasn’t any of your doing, jack.

Jack: About gwen, um…

Xander: What about her?

Jack: [Sighs] Never mind. It can wait.

Maggie: Well, I wasn’t expecting to see you again today. How’s it going?

Jennifer: Uh, I feel much better. Thank you so much for talking with me.

Maggie: Oh, anytime. You’re the one who had the strength to throw out those pills. That was a very big deal. What did jack say when you told him?

Jennifer: I haven’t had the chance to talk with him about it yet. There’s been so much going on.

Maggie: Huh. So what? What’s been going on?

Jennifer: Huh?

Maggie: Oh, hi.

Jennifer: Look at you!

Maggie: You look lovely and so happy.

Sarah: Well, for a while there, I didn’t think that this kind of happiness was possible for me anymore.

Jennifer: We made you a bouquet. Are you ready?

Sarah: Yes. Xan, my baby. What do you say? You want to get married?

Xander: I say yes.

[Tender music]

Maggie: Oh. Yes, yes, yes, yes.

[Muffled speech and laughter]

Jennifer: Yay! Oh, my goodness.

Gwen: What’s going on?

Sarah: Yes, good.

Gwen: Maybe I should just go.

Maggie: Oh, wonderful. Dearly beloved, we are gathered today to join xander and sarah in marriage. Marriage is an honorable state, one that should not be–

Xander: Maggie, um, would you mind if we just skip straight to the good bits, and if we could avoid the whole “does anyone object?” Part, that’d be great.

Maggie: Gotcha. Okay, you and sarah, um, have prepared your vows a year ago. Well, now you get a chance to say them out loud. Why don’t you start?

Xander: I…

Sarah: What?

Xander: I can’t remember my speech. I went over it and over it and over it, and I just– my mind has gone completely blank.

[Laughter]

Maggie: Well, then, you know, why don’t you just say what’s in your heart right now?

Xander: Right. Your just… you are the best thing that has ever happened to me.

[Sighs] Being loved by someone like you, I… it’s more than i ever dreamed of. And when I thought I’d lost you, I… it was like nothing mattered anymore. And I did the sort of things that I used to do before I knew you because i decided that, well, happiness must not be on the cards for me because you are my happiness, sarah, and then a miracle happened because of abigail. You came back to me, and now I’m gonna spend the rest of my life taking care of you and being so very grateful for that miracle.

Sarah: [Laughs]

[Chuckles] I feel like I’ve been entrusted with this wonderful secret ’cause I know the real you, the xander you were born to be before life made you bitter and angry, before I knew that I loved you, you became my friend, my crude, pushy, unfailingly loyal friend, and I found myself just wanting to get to know you better, and something told me that if I did, it would be the gift of a lifetime, and it was. The night before our first wedding, I remember thinking that I had gotten everything I’d ever wanted. What an awful journey we went after that, right?

[Laughs] I thought that I lost you forever, but here we are, and I get to spend the rest of my life with the love of my life, my husband. That’s you.

[Chuckles]

Maggie: Oh, that is so beautiful, both of you. Sonny: Oh, my god, I hope I’m not making a huge mistake trusting you.

Leo: You think I’m lying? Still?

Leo: Well, gwen’s in jail. Who else would’ve done this to me

Leo: Girl, if I knew the answer to that, you think I’d be here? I’d be spilling my guts to salem’s finest.

[Phone rings] Ugh, I have to take this.

Sonny: You know more than you’re telling me.

Leo: Hey, sloany.

Sloan: I am stuck at this dive motel, and you’re not here.

Leo: Sorry, I can’t trust anyone anymore. I thought it was a trap.

Leo: That’s exactly what it was. The police commissioner said he’d arrest me if I didn’t help him out.

Leo: Traitor! Ever hear of a malpractice suit?

Sloan: Shut up and listen to me.

Leo: Why?

Sloan: I better not get disbarred for this. Where are you?

Leo: Why would I tell you anything about my location?

Sarah: Because commissioner hernandez thinks you’re at the hospital to finish off sonny kiriakis. Do not go anywhere near that place. He’s headed there now.

Leo: What? When did he leave?

Sarah: He should be there any minute.

Jennifer: [Laughs]

Sarah: [Giggles]

Xander: What the bloody hell are you doing here?

Gwen: I’m sorry. I’m sorry, I– I didn’t mean to intrude. I–

Xander: What did you mean to do?

Gwen: [Sighs] If I’d have known that this was going on–

Xander: No, no, why aren’t you in jail?

Gwen: My new lawyer convinced the judge to release me. They’re looking for leo now. I– I’m sorry. I really didn’t mean to ruin your wedding. I can see now that you both are meant to be together.

Xander: No thanks to you.

Gwen: I–I just wanted to come here and say thank you for having my back yet again. God knows I’ve done nothing to deserve it. Right, I’m gonna leave now. Just go back to your celebrations. I had no intention of hurting abigail that night. It was just my desperate attempt to get sarah away from xander. And one more thing. I didn’t kill laura. Her death really was an accident, and I told abigail that, too, and she believed me. I hope you will too.

Jennifer: I’ll have to think about it.

Gwen: [Sighs] I wish you a world of happiness.

[Soft dramatic music]

Sarah: Well, at least she didn’t show up in time to object.

Xander: She’s gone now, hopefully for good.

Flo, you’re here.

[Soft dramatic music]

Gwen: What the hell is this? What’s happened here?

Gwen: [Sighs] Thank god it’s still here.

Xander: Well, so gwen told us to enjoy this moment, and that’s exactly what i intend to do. This is the first day of my life with the missus, and I intend to celebrate the hell out of it.

Maggie: Oh, I like that.

Jack: That sounds really good.

Xander: Okay.

Sarah: My goodness.

Jennifer: Oh, here he is.

Sarah: Thank you.

Jack: And you. For you.

Maggie: Ah, thank you, sir.

Jack: For you, my darling.

Jennifer: Thank you.

Maggie: Okay.

Jack: All right, it’s time for a toast. To mr. And mrs. Xander cook.

Maggie: Here, here!

Jennifer: Cheers!

Sarah: Cheers, cheers.

[Chuckles]

Xander: [Sighs]

Maggie: Oh, look at him!

[Laughs] He needs more.

[Elevator chimes]

Rafe: Excuse me, I need an update on sonny kiriakis.

Nurse: He’s regained consciousness.

Rafe: Oh, that’s great. When was the last time someone checked in on him?

Nurse: There’s another nurse with him right now.

Rafe: Okay, what’s her name?

Nurse: I think mr. Kiriakis called her leona.

Rafe: And how well do you know her?

Nurse: I don’T. I’ve never seen her before.

Rafe: Oh, my god.

[Dramatic music]

Rafe: Hey, leo was here?

Sonny: Yeah, you just missed him.

Rafe: Oh, my god.

Nurse: Nurse leona, the commissioner of police would like to talk to you.

[Elevator chimes]

Jennifer: I can’t believe someone did that to sonny.

Maggie: Thank you, sweetie.

Jennifer: Did you sleep at all last night?

Maggie: Oh. A while, finally.

Jennifer: How’s victor taking it?

Maggie: Well, he’s doing his best to be strong, you know, for justin’s sake, but I’m really worried about him.

Victor: Young man in his prime gets stabbed in the back and the only thing this rag can worry about is money. Leo stark ought to be eradicated from the planet. Should’ve done it myself a long time ago.

Alex: This is on me, uncle vic.

Victor: Alex. What are you talking about?

Alex: I had the chance to take care of stark last night and I didn’t do it. If sonny doesn’t make it out of this, I’ll never forgive myself.

[Phone rings]

Sloan: I don’t appreciate being summoned.

Rafe: You know what I don’t appreciate? Deranged killers freely roaming my streets, so why don’t you tell me where leo stark is?

Sloan: [Sighs]

[Knock on door]

Leo: Nobody’s supposed to know I’m here.

Chad: Stark. Open the door.

Leo: Chad? Oh, god. What do I do?

Chad: Open the door, or I’m gonna kick it in!

Leo: I’m coming. Chad, you don’t understand!

Chad: I understand plenty. You murdered my wife and my best friend. And now, it’s your turn to die.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Chad: You recognize this? You used it on abigail and sonny. I went through a lot of trouble to steal this from the police evidence room and it was worth it because now, I’m gonna use it to rid the world of you.

Leo: Please don’t do that. I’m begging you.

Chad: Begging, begging. Did my wife beg you before you stuck this into her? Did she beg you to think about our kids?

Leo: I didn’t kill abigail, I swear to god!

Chad: See, sonny, sonny, sonny didn’t even have a chance to beg. You just snuck up on him and now, he’s dead.

Leo: He’s dead?

Chad: You stabbed him in the back like the coward you are.

Leo: I am. I am a total coward. That’s why I couldn’t have stabbed anybody. I pass out if I see blood. I didn’t do any of this!

Chad: Shh. You think that I am gonna believe a word that you say?

[Flesh squelches]

Leo: [Groans]

[Dramatic music]

Chad: [Sighs]

Leo: [Gasps]

[Panting]

[Elevator bell dings]

Chad: No, no, no, don’t tell me that sonny–

Justin: No, no, no, no, no. He’s alive.

Chad: [Sighs]

Justin: He’s just in the icu.

Chad: Okay, he made it through the night. That’s a good sign.

Justin: Yes, yes, but the knife did a lot of damage. His surgeon said that he’s still critical, but stable.

Chad: Thank, god. I thought when I saw the two of you talking, I–

Mr. Kiriakis.

Justin: Yes. How’s sonny?

He’s still holding his own, but the doctor said you could see him now.

Justin: Oh, thank you.

Chad: I can’t believe this.

Stephanie: Sonny’s tough. He gets it from the johnson side. We don’t mention that to victor.

Chad: [Chuckles]

Stephanie: He has so much to live for. He’ll pull through.

Chad: Yeah, he has to. I don’t think I can handle losing anyone else I love right now.

Sloan: You already had to drop the charges against leo, now you want to pull him in?

Rafe: Oh, yeah.

Sloan: Why?

Rafe: Hmm. This.

Sloan: [Chuckles] So? That’s a steak knife. Look, I’ve got somewhere to be, so could you just get to the point?

Rafe: Last night, chad dimera went to sonny kiriakis’ office and he found sonny lying on the floor with this knife stuck in his back and leo stark standing over him. So could we knock off the games now? Some days, it felt like asthma was holding me back.

Rafe: Your client and sonny hate each other.

Sloan: Did chad see leo stab sonny?

Rafe: No.

Sloan: Did anybody else?

Rafe: Not that I’m aware of.

Sloan: So no witnesses. Isn’t it possible that chad walked in just as leo was trying to administer first aid to mr. Kiriakis?

Rafe: Not with their history.

Sloan: What history?

Rafe: Well, leo blames sonny for ruining his romance with his last mark and you know, he used to work for sonny at titan, so he knew how to talk his way through security. And his fingerprints are all over the handle of that knife– means, motive, and opportunity.

Sloan: Maybe leo was trying to pull the knife out. Some people panic, you know? They do stupid stuff.

Rafe: Oh, you got an explanation for everything, don’t you? You know, maybe you can use those talents to explain why the coroner also believes that that knife was used in another murder of one of leo’s enemies, abigail dimera.

Victor: The only person to blame for what got done to sonny is leo stark.

Alex: I know that, but–

Victor: No buts. Don’t go trying to make this your personal tragedy. And as far as leo stark is concerned, that little weasel’s gonna rue the day he ever laid a finger on a kiriakis.

Leo: [Groans] I’ve been on hold forever. Was I cut off by that? Yeah. Yo. This is sonny kiriakis’ brother, alex, just calling to find out how my kid brother’s doing. Oh, that’s wonderful. I mean, awesome. Yeah, thanks a lot.

[Cell phone beeps]

[Sighs] Sonny’s still alive, which means I can’t be framed for another murder. Which means all I have to do is figure out the name of the rat who is setting me up.

[Sighs]

Stephanie: I hear you found sonny.

Chad: [Clears throat]

Stephanie: Did you get any sleep at all? I don’t suppose you’ve had any breakfast. I need to make myself useful, so I’m gonna go down to the cafeteria and get you whatever doesn’t look disgusting.

Chad: Oh, I can’t eat. Not until I know sonny’s okay.

Stephanie: Well, it may be a while before we know that. I don’t want you passing out from low blood sugar.

[Elevator bell dings]

Chad: Will.

Will: Where’s sonny?

Stephanie: He’s in the icu. I’ll show you where it is.

[Tense music]

[Monitor beeping]

Justin: You were always a good sleeper, even when you were a baby. And when you did wake up in the middle of the night, you never cried. Your mom and I would just hear you babbling to yourself in your crib and one of us would go in. Your mom used to sing a song. The same song.

[Cries] I’d give anything to hear her sing that again.

Will: Justin.

Will: When did he get out of surgery?

Justin: Not till the middle of the night. They didn’t want to reverse the anesthesia, so we have to just wait for him to come out.

Will: Is it okay?

Justin: Oh, yeah. Please.

Will: Hey. Hey, sonny, it’s me. I’m here. I’m here.

Jennifer: And now, I’m going to fix you something to eat.

Maggie: No, you’re not. Please, come and sit down.

Jennifer: [Sighs]

Maggie: Tell me, jenn, how are you getting through these days?

Jennifer: Oh, well, jack really took a nosedive when gwen was charged. He’s a wreck. She put abigail through so much, but he never thought that she’d go this far.

Maggie: Sweetheart, I asked how you are, and you told me how jack is.

Jennifer: Well, it’s harder for him because of gwen.

Maggie: It’s just as hard for you. I know how it feels to lose a daughter, and I wasn’t as close to summer as you were to abigail. But she was your firstborn. She was your baby. Your friend.

Jennifer: I– believe me, aunt maggie, I know, but listen, people grieve differently. I mean, I’m okay. I have to be. Jack and chad and the kids, they’re…

[Sighs] They need me. Thomas and charlotte are having to go through life without a mother, and their father is really struggling. Someone has to be strong.

Maggie: You know what? I worry there’s no one to be strong for you.

Jennifer: [Sighs]

[Cell phone ringing] Oh. Oh, it’s the ad sales department at the paper.

Maggie: At a time like this?

Jennifer: Yes. I’m so sorry. I have to take it. Hello? Hi. Yes, it’s me. What’s up?

[Soft dramatic music]

Maggie: Pain killers. Oh, jennifer.

Alex: My brother’s fighting for his life. You want me to focus on business.

Victor: You’re damn right I do. When sonny gets better, and he will, I want him to come back to a company that’s thriving. That’s where you come in.

Alex: How? What are you talking about?

Victor: Do I have to draw you a picture? I want you to take over as interim ceo of titan.

Will: Are the doctors saying he’ll make a full recovery?

Justin: All they’re saying is that he’s holding his own, but that he’s not out of the woods.

Will: What does that mean?

Justin: They’re hopeful, but they’re monitoring his condition very closely.

[Monitor beeping]

[Elevator bell dings]

Stephanie: Chad. Here.

Chad: What’s in here?

Stephanie: A bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. Have breakfast then go home and get some sleep.

Chad: I already told you. I’m not leaving sonny.

Stephanie: Sonny’s got his husband and his dad with him. You’re gonna need to spell him in a few hours, and you can’t do that if you’re exhausted.

Chad: The person that killed my wife and almost killed my best friend is on the loose, and you want me to go home and sleep?

[Cell phone beeps]

Sloan: The 911 log says that it was leo who called in for the ambulance.

Rafe: ‘Cause chad told him to.

Sloan: Already had to drop the charges against leo for abigail dimera. It sounds to me like you’re gonna have to do the same thing here. Your case is entirely circumstantial.

Rafe: Mm-hmm. Do you know actually, there is one piece of evidence that I haven’t told you about yet. You see, leo made a list of all the people that he was out to get.

Stephanie: How do you know that?

Rafe: We found this at the crime scene. Two names crossed off. Abigail and sonny.

Stephanie: More circumstantial evidence.

Rafe: I am not charging leo– yet, but I sure as hell am gonna talk to him and I am pretty sure you know where he’s at. So either you help me bring him in, or I’m gonna charge you as an accessory.

Stephanie: You can’t do that.

Rafe: Watch me.

Migraine attacks?

Victor: Well?

Alex: Why are they going after titan? My brother didn’t ask to get himself stabbed. This is just clickbait.

Victor: This is not a tabloid, alex.

Alex: No, I understand that. I get it. It’s a respectable publication. They’re threatening to lose confidence in titan.

Victor: Which I cannot have.

Alex: You want me to take over?

Victor: And I want stephanie johnson working full-time to get this pr crisis in control.

Alex: And you’re sure you want me working with stephanie? Wasn’t it just the other day, you told me that if it were up to you, you wouldn’t have steve johnson’s daughter wipe the floors at titan.

Victor: Yes, and I meant it, but sonny hired her and I think it’s about time she started to earn her keep.

Stephanie: Oh.

Chad: How is he? Did he know you were there?

Justin: I don’t know. Will’s with him now. He’s probably the best medicine for him.

Stephanie: [Sighs] Will looked scared to death.

Justin: We all are. Look, I’m gonna be in the chapel if anybody’s looking for me.

[Soft dramatic music]

Chad: I’m gonna go check on will.

Stephanie: Sure. I’ll wait for you here.

[Cell phone ringing]

[Cell phone beeps] This is stephanie.

Alex: Hey, it’s alex. I need to see you right away. Kiriakis study. Be there in ten.

Stephanie: But I’m–

Alex: But nothing.

[Cell phone beeps]

Stephanie: [Sighs]

Jennifer: Sorry about that. They had to have an okay on a big ad buy.

Maggie: I accidentally knocked this over.

Jennifer: Oh. I should’ve latched it.

Maggie: When I was picking up what I spilled, I– I found this.

Jennifer: Oh. Oh, those are doug’s pain meds. Julie asked me to fill it.

Maggie: Doug’s in pain?

Jennifer: That old racquetball injury.

Maggie: But doug hasn’t been playing racquetball in a long time.

Jennifer: Maybe it was something else.

Maggie: Hmm.

Jennifer: Maybe he had a fall and julie doesn’t want anybody to know about it. You know how proud they both are.

Maggie: Jennifer. You know you can tell me the truth.

Leo: Someone hates me enough to frame me for a murder and an almost murder, and I can’t figure out who it is. The people who hate me most are the same people who love sonny and abigail. It doesn’t make any sense.

[Cell phone ringing]

[Cell phone beeps] Hey, girl.

Sloan: Where are you, leo?

Leo: Look, this has been real and all, but your services are no longer needed.

Sloan: And what does that mean?

Leo: It means I’ll see you on the flip side. I’m out. Good bye.

Sloan: Wait a minute, leo. Don’t hang up. I can still help you.

Leo: And how are you gonna do that? Someone is trying to pin not one, but two crimes on me. Are you saying you can make those charges go the way of dvds and spiral perms?

Sloan: I want you to tell me exactly what happened in sonny kiriakis’ office.

Leo: What difference does it make? The cops already think I did it, so does chad.

Sloan: Did anyone see you do it?

Leo: No, because I didn’t!

Sloan: Then I can still help you.

Leo: Sonny had already been stabbed when I got back to his office. I’m the one who found him. You tell that to the cops and see how fast they change their opinion about me. I’ll wait. On second thought, I won’T.

Sloan: I believe you, leo.

Leo: You do?

Sloan: Yes. I know you didn’t murder abigail dimera and I know you’re too smart to try to kill sonny kiriakis. Someone is trying to set you up, and I want a chance to prove it. Just tell me where you’re at and I’ll come to you.

Leo: Sorry, girlfriend, it’s too late for that.

Sloan: I know it looks bad right now, but trust me. It will look even worse if you try to run. Leo. Are you still there? Leo, listen to me. I’m on your side.

[Sighs]

[Monitor beeping]

Will: [Sighs] Ari made it very clear to me that she’s not happy I was in la for so long. I’m really sorry I wasn’t here. Oh, gabi’s taking ari shopping today and I have a feeling that…

[Sighs] Ari’s gonna be the only elementary school student in designer clothes. And this is when you would say, “will, gabi is ari’s mother and she’s gonna spoil her every once in a while.” And that’s why I need you to wake up. To remind me not to sweat the small stuff.

Chad: And it’s all small stuff.

Will: [Chuckles] How long have you been here?

Chad: Long enough to know that gabi and ari are about to do some damage at the mall. Does arianna know?

Will: No. Gabi wanted to keep it from her until, you know, sonny gets better and I don’t know. I didn’t know what to do, so I just went along with it.

Chad: Well, it’s in the news.

Will: Yeah. Fortunately, ari’s not big on “the spectator.” Gabi’s gonna keep her off social media.

Chad: Okay. Well, I–I just wanted to get a look at him. I’ll leave you guys alone.

Will: Chad. Don’t go yet. Time. It’s life’s most precious commodity,

[Monitor beeping]

Chad: What’s up?

Will: [Sighs] I… I just can’t stop thinking that this is my fault.

Chad: Why?

Will: Sonny was obsessed with breaking up leo and chloe’s dad. And I had, you know, I had a lot of opportunities to get him to back off and I–

Chad: Wouldn’t have worked.

[Sighs] I’ve known sonny for almost as long as you have, and there was no way that he was gonna stand back and let leo scam craig the way he scammed you two.

Will: Yeah, I guess.

Chad: Face it. It’s just the guy you married.

Will: Yes, it is. And I love that guy so much.

[Dramatic music]

Stephanie: I was at the hospital. I haven’t even gotten a chance to see sonny yet. This had damned well better be important.

Victor: How’s sonny doing?

Stephanie: The doctors told justin he’s not out of the woods yet, but he’s stable.

Alex: Well, that’s great. That’s really great.

Stephanie: Will got there right before I left.

Victor: Managed to tear himself away from the city of angels, did he?

Alex: Come on, uncle vic.

Stephanie: So what am i doing here?

Victor: The doctors can take care of sonny. You two can see to it that he doesn’t come back to a company that’s tanked in his absence.

Stephanie: What’s the problem?

Alex: He’s talking about this.

Stephanie: [Gasps] Wow. They didn’t waste any time.

Victor: Wow? That’s all you have to say? You’re being paid a great deal of money to see to this sort of thing.

Stephanie: And I will.

Victor: But not alone. I want a kiriakis to supervise.

Stephanie: Which kiriakis?

Victor: Alex. I want you to put your heads together and work nonstop to salvage the reputation of my company. Is that clear? Is there something going on here that I’m not aware of? Some problem?

Stephanie: No. No problem at all. Alex and I are on it, right?

Alex: You bet.

Victor: Then why are you standing here? Get over to headquarters and get busy.

Maggie: How many of these have you taken?

Jennifer: [Sighs] None. I swear. They give doug 30 at a time. Count them.

Maggie: No, I don’t have to. I believe you.

Jennifer: I was thinking about taking them. I’m glad you didn’t see me going through doug and julie’s medicine cabinet trying to find the empty one. I had to lie through my teeth to get the pharmacist to refill it.

Maggie: How long have you been struggling with this?

Jennifer: God. Honestly, I… ever since I lost my mom.

Maggie: Oh, jennifer. And why didn’t you come and talk to me?

Jennifer: I don’t know. I guess I thought I was handling it. Then all of this happened with abigail.

Maggie: And you ran out of coping skills. Oh, sweetheart, I am so sorry that you’ve been struggling with this. I should have figured out that something was wrong.

Jennifer: I’ve been white-knuckling it, trying to hide the fact that I can barely make it through the day.

[Sniffles] Jack doesn’t have a clue.

[Chuckles]

Maggie: Jack isn’t an addict in recovery. I am, and I should’ve seen the signs. So how long has it been since you’ve gone to a meeting?

Jennifer: Oh, too long.

[Chuckles] I thought about it though. Just the thought though of… having to go and talk about abigail and admit that it made me want to use, just made me feel like such a failure.

Maggie: [Sighs] That’s the disease talking. It makes us feel bad about ourselves for needing help. I’ve been there before. You know you’ve found strength in admitting that you have a weakness.

Jennifer: Well, knowing and believing are clearly two different things.

Maggie: Mm. You were honest with me. That’s the first step.

Jennifer: Well…

Maggie: You know, there’s a meeting at the hospital every day at noon, and if we leave right now, we can just about make it. So what are you gonna do with those?

Jennifer: [Sniffles] Oh.

[Sighs]

Maggie: Second thoughts?

Jennifer: Yeah. But I know this is the right thing to do.

Maggie: Oh, I’m so proud of you.

Jennifer: [Sighs]

Maggie: Okay. Okay, let’s get to that meeting.

Jennifer: Okay.

Maggie: Okay.

Jennifer: [Chuckles]

Sloan: Leo, just tell me where you are. You need somebody by your side– somebody you can trust. Isn’t that why you hired me?

Leo: Chad walked in on me looking at sonny with a knife in his back. I am in major trouble here, sloan, and no offense, but johnnie cochran you are not.

Sloan: You haven’t given me a chance. Just tell me where you are. I’ll be right there. We’re gonna figure this out together.

Leo: Oh. I guess I don’t have a choice. I’m at the white dove motel, room 201. I’ll be under the bed.

Sloan: I’m on my way.

[Cell phone beeps]

Rafe: Well, hold on. Not so fast. Where is he?

Sloan: You want leo stark, well, then you’ll have to give me something that I want. My moderate to severe plaque psoriasis…

Rafe: I’m not bartering with you. We already have a deal in place. You got the information and now, I handle this.

Sloan: I’d never make that deal.

Rafe: What are you trying to pull?

Sloan: Nothing. When I see leo, I’ll recommend that we come in here and he give you a statement.

Rafe: Oh, and I’m supposed to just believe that?

Sloan: I’m not gonna sell out my client.

Rafe: Your client may have already committed one murder and attempted another.

Sloan: “May have” being the operative words. As far as I know, you’re still innocent in this country until proven guilty.

Rafe: You know, I already have enough to bring leo in on suspicion of attempted murder and you damn well know it. Now, you either tell me where he is or you’re gonna spend the night in a holding cell.

Sloan: Okay, but I’m coming with you.

Rafe: Forget it.

Sloan: No, mr. Stark has the right to have his attorney present while you question him and you damned well know that.

Rafe: All right. All right.

Sloan: But if we show up in a squad car, leo’s gonna be gone like the wind.

Rafe: Fine. We’ll take yours. But I’ll drive.

Sloan: [Scoffs]

[Dramatic music]

Leo: [Sighs] Oh, you better make it fast, sloanikins. A sister doesn’t have all day. Announcer: Type 2 diabetes?

Maggie: Hi, darling.

Victor: Oh, good. You’re back.

Maggie: [Sighs] Is there any news on sonny?

Victor: Well, he’s stable, but they have to keep him in the icu. Will’s with him now.

Maggie: So there’s hope. Oh, that’s wonderful, honey.

Victor: Where have you been?

Maggie: Oh, I’m sorry I was so long. I just thought I should stop by and see how jennifer’s doing.

Victor: And?

Maggie: Well, I’m glad I went by. She’s having a really hard time.

Victor: Well, in her situation, who wouldn’t be having a hard time?

Maggie: Exactly. But I think she’s feeling a little bit better now.

Victor: You seem to have that effect on people.

[Soft dramatic music]

Jennifer: [Sighs]

Alex: I just got a text from my dad. He said sonny’s vital signs are still holding steady.

Stephanie: Oh, that’s great.

Alex: Yeah, I guess his condition really improved after will got there to be with him.

Stephanie: Mm, well, I’ll bet so. Those two have something really special going.

Alex: Yeah, they do. I hope I have what they do someday. What are you working on?

Stephanie: The press release announcing you as interim ceo.

Alex: Huh.

Stephanie: Since you’re supervising everything I do, I assume you want to read it.

Alex: Come on. Give me a break.

[Sighs] That is pretty good.

Stephanie: [Scoffs] Pretty good? I made you sound like warren buffett.

Alex: Well, I’m sorry. Why, ms. Johnson, this press release is absolutely amazing.

Stephanie: That’s more like it.

Alex: Hmm. Just like you. Amazing.

Stephanie: Watch it.

Alex: I know. Boundaries.

Stephanie: Exactly.

Alex: I do have to say though, I am quite impressed the way you made my “vast experience cultivating an atmosphere of corporate inclusivity” and my “adeptness at vertical integration” sound almost sexy.

Stephanie: [Scoffs] What can I say? I’m really good at what I do.

Alex: You are not gonna get an argument from me.

[Smacks lips, sighs]

[Knocking on door]

Sloan: Leo. Open up. It’s me. Sloan. Leo, let me in.

[Banging on door] Hey, stark! We know you’re in there! Open up the damn door!

Bonnie: Justin! Where are you? I thought we were ha-ha-having a late dinner.

[Laughs] What’s all this?

Justin: A picnic. I started to set it up on the patio, but I nearly got eaten alive by mosquitos. So I hope this is okay.

Bonnie: Aw, honey, it’s perfect.

Justin: Here you go. To my beautiful wife.

Bonnie: To my thoughtful husband. And here I thought we were gonna have takeout from buddy’s burger barn. And you went and dialed up that romance, cowboy.

Justin: I’ll admit that I may have been influenced by alex. I tell you, my son really seems to know how to impress the ladies.

Stephanie: I should get going, first day on a new job tomorrow.

Alex: You could be late. I’ll write you a note.

Stephanie: [Sighs] Would you just give up? I’m not just gonna fall into your arms because you’re handsome. Maybe that works on other women, but not me.

Alex: She thinks I’m handsome. Yes! Still in the game, baby.

Chloe: What word has an a and an n, but doesn’t end in t?

[Knock on door] Oh, hey, nicole. Glad you’re here. This game drives me crazy. What word starts with an a–

Nicole: Sex.

Chloe: Uh, no, there’s no a in sex.

Nicole: No. No, chloe. Sex, that’s what they’re having. Eric and jada are sleeping together.

Rafe: Jada? Hey, thought your shift ended hours ago.

Jada: It did. I’m just taking another look at the suspects in the abigail dimera case.

Rafe: Well, we now have gwen rizczech in custody. Leo stark told us that she confessed to him.

Jada: I know, but I don’t trust that guy.

Leo: Oh, sonny? I forgot to ask, do you validate? The parking rates here–sonny? My hit list. How did this get here? And what is that on it? Blood? Oh, my god, sonny! Sonny! Sonny, can you hear me?

[Panting] He’s dead.

[Soft orchestration]

Nicole: So I knock on eric’s door, and jada answers– in a towel.

Chloe: Okay.

Nicole: So she gives me some song and dance about how she’s just taking a shower there because the air conditioning is broken, but what does an a/c being broken have to do–

Chloe: Okay, okay, can we just fast forward to the sex part?

Nicole: Yeah. Yeah, fine. Okay, so I tell her that I was relieved that she was just taking a shower, because when she answered eric’s door in just that towel, I was worried that maybe they slept together.

Chloe: Wait. You didn’t say that, did you?

Nicole: Yeah. Why wouldn’t I?

Chloe: Oh, my god.

Nicole: I was thrown off guard.

Chloe: Nicole, don’t you see how totally inappropriate that is?

Nicole: No, actually, I don’T.

Chloe: Telling the woman that you’re worried that she and eric had slept together? What are you, her mother?

Nicole: Can we drop the sarcasm, please?

Chloe: I just can’t believe you said that to a woman that you hardly know. Whoever she sleeps with, that’s none of your concern.

Nicole: Well, it is my concern who she sleeps with if I care about that person. A person who has been a good friend and I have a long history with.

Chloe: Okay, I don’t care if you’ve known eric since forever. This is a private matter between two people who are or are not having sex.

Nicole: Well, you didn’t let me finish.

Chloe: There’s more?

Nicole: Yeah, there’s more. She proceeds to tell me that they did sleep together.

Chloe: Probably ’cause you put her on the spot.

Nicole: You’re missing the point.

Chloe: The point being?

Nicole: That she and eric had sex.

Chloe: Well, good for them.

Nicole: That’s it? That’s all you’re gonna say?

Chloe: What do you want me to say? I’m so glad that jada confided in you, and you now finally know what eric’s and her relationship is, so that you can continue to obsess even more than you’ve been obsessing over this. I’m so happy for you.

Nicole: I am not obsessing. Why are you acting like I’m some kind of head case, and like I’m getting on your last nerve? This is important to me, chloe.

Chloe: I know it’s important. That’s why I’m worried about you. That you’re so freaked out that eric is with someone who isn’t you. And frankly, I don’t know how you’re not embarrassed that you interrogated that woman about her sex life. I’m a little embarrassed just hearing about it.

Nicole: Oh. Wow. Okay, well, forget I brought it up then. I’ll be on my way.

Chloe: Oh, for god’s sakes, don’t leave.

Nicole: Well, I don’t want to embarrass you, so I should go.

Chloe: Oh, fine, I am over my embarrassment. I just have a couple questions. What if eric and jada did have sex?

Nicole: What do you mean “what if” they had sex?

Chloe: What I mean is you should be reacting the same way I am, which is I could care less if they did. You should care less because, like I keep reminding you, you are a married woman.

Nicole: [Scoffs]

Rafe: Well, you are right not to trust leo. The guy would do just about anything to keep himself out of trouble.

Jada: Like point the finger at his best friend.

Rafe: Yeah. I mean, he turned on gwen last time when he gave us the mask. I’m sure that he thought that was gonna be enough to get himself off the hook.

Jada: But trask decided to just charge them both with murder.

Rafe: And suddenly, leo swears that gwen told him that she murdered abigail. Seems a little convenient, wouldn’t you say?

Jada: Yeah, I would. So you agree that you think leo’s making up this confession?

Rafe: Well, it’s certainly possible.

Jada: So then that would mean that gwen could be innocent.

Rafe: Well, I took gwen’s statement myself, and my gut tells me that she was telling the truth, that when she left abigail’s room, abigail was still alive.

Jada: Gwen said she threatened her sister with a syringe, not a knife?

Rafe: That’s right.

Jada: So we know abigail was stabbed to death. And if gwen is telling the truth, then what happened to this knife?

Rafe: That’s a good question.

Leo: Oh, sonny.

Sonny: [Groans]

Leo: [Gasps] You’re alive. Oh, thank god. Now what do I do? I’m gonna help you, that’s what I’m gonna do. Oh, ooh, I can’t, ’cause then they’re gonna think I did it. Ah. Ugh. But if I leave you here, you’re gonna bleed to death. Oh, there’s gotta be something. Um…I know. I’m gonna call an ambulance. Okay. Okay.

Chad: Leo? What the hell did you do?

Stephanie: I know it’s late, but any chance you’re still serving?

Eric: I’m sorry, the kitchen’s closed. Stephanie?

Eric: I didn’t know you were in town.

Stephanie: I know, I just got here a few days ago.

Eric: It’s so good to see you. It’s been forever.

Stephanie: I know. It feels like I’m playing catch-up with everyone.

Eric: Yeah, well, you missed a lot of what’s going on in salem, right? Not necessarily a bad thing.

Stephanie: Yeah, so I gather. Speaking of, I was really sorry to hear that you and nicole split up.

Nicole: I know that I’m married, chloe. That hasn’t escaped me. But does that mean that I can’t be concerned about eric?

Chloe: Mm, it kind of does.

Nicole: Why? We’re good friends. And we have a long history together.

Chloe: As you keep saying. But that history, nicole, is what’s making your concern fraught.

Nicole: Fraught? Why?

Chloe: Come on, don’t you see what this is? This is dangerous territory. Honey, you are wondering about your ex-husband’s sex life?

Nicole: Well, I’m wondering because he’s in a very vulnerable place right now. I mean, he just left the priesthood.

Chloe: So what?

Nicole: So he’s not ready for anything serious.

Chloe: [Sighs] What are you, his shrink?

Nicole: Did I not already ask you to drop the sarcasm?

Chloe: Okay, what if this is not serious? What if it’s just sex?

Nicole: No, no, it’s– it’s not. It’s never just sex with someone like eric.

Chloe: Ah, here we go.

Nicole: Wh–what do you mean “here we go”? When this first came up, even you said that eric wouldn’t just jump into bed with someone. He wouldn’t do that unless feelings were involved.

Chloe: Well, maybe feelings are involved.

Nicole: That’s why I’m worried. Oh. Nice. First sarcasm and now an eyeroll? Wonderful. Thank you.

Chloe: Nicole, if you were thinking about any of this rationally, which you definitely are not, you would see that your worries and your concerns and your curiosity are wacko given that eric is a grown man, and given that you are a married woman– a newlywed, in fact.

Nicole: Do you know how annoying that is to have that constantly pointed out to me like I’m oblivious to the fact? This has nothing to do with me being married or eric being a grown man. This is about a friend who has made a huge and disorienting change in his life and is involved with a virtual stranger.

Chloe: Well, she’s clearly not a stranger to eric if he’s having sex with her.

Nicole: It’s not “if,” chloe. He is… which is why I think we should hire someone to do a background check on her.

Chloe: On jada?

Nicole: Mm-hmm.

Chloe: Okay, you have lost your mind.

Jada: Finding that murder weapon would answer a lot of questions.

Rafe: Yeah. Yeah, it would. You know, forensics thinks it was a steak knife, one that went missing from the dimera place the night that abigail was murdered.

Jada: Well, if it doesn’t get found, trask is gonna have a really tough time getting a conviction.

Rafe: Oh, yeah, well trask already thinks that she’s gonna be able to get the conviction, especially now that she’s got leo’s testimony in her pocket.

Jada: At best, his testimony is hearsay. At worst, a lie. And all the evidence surrounding gwen is all circumstantial.

Rafe: And I told trask that I believe gwen. It doesn’t matter. She’s on a warpath. She wants a conviction, like, yesterday.

Jada: Even if it’s the wrong person?

Rafe: Yeah. I hear you. And we’re not gonna get justice by rushing through this and convicting the wrong person.

Jada: Well, let’s keep digging.

Rafe: Oh, yeah, we will. It’s just, um, we have to do it carefully.

Jada: Meaning?

Rafe: Meaning we need trask to believe that we are gathering evidence to convict gwen.

Jada: Meanwhile, leo stark is out running around free doing god knows what.

Rafe: Yeah.

Chad: You killed him?

Leo: No! No! He’s still alive!

Chad: What the hell happened?

Leo: I don’t know! I walked in and found him like this.

Chad: He has a pulse.

Rafe: Okay, I think I’m gonna take off.

Jada: Okay, goodnight.

Rafe: Okay. Listen, not that I don’t appreciate your dedication, but I don’t want my newest detective burning out. So maybe you should call it a night too.

Jada: Well, I did have tentative dinner plans with eric.

Rafe: Oh, yeah. My wife said you two were dating.

Jada: Nicole.

Rafe: Yep. That’s the one.

Jada: It’s kind of weird, right?

Rafe: What?

Jada: That I’m dating your wife’s ex-husband. I mean, I don’t know, that doesn’t seem a little, like, incestuous?

Rafe: Well, in this town, you kind of get used to it.

Jada: Like underground tunnels and secret rooms. In salem, it’s all normal.

Rafe: Mm-hmm. Yeah. For better or worse, it kind of is. You know, in fact, my wife was once married to a guy–twice–who was married to a gal–twice– who I was married to once.

Jada: Okay, I have to wait for my head to stop spinning.

[Laughter] So you don’t see any potential problems here?

Rafe: You mean, as far as nicole’s concerned? Why would there be a problem?

Nicole: So you slept with eric, huh? That’s kind of fast, isn’t it?

Jada: Excuse me?

Nicole: You just got to town.

Jada: Actually, mrs. Hernandez, it’s been a couple weeks.

Nicole: Don’t you remember I asked you to call me nicole? And yes, I know it’s been a couple of weeks, but as far as I know, you and eric have only been out on one date? Unless, of course, I’m mistaken about that.

Jada: I’m sorry, nicole, but how is this any of your business?

Rafe: Nicole’s not interested in eric’s love life. Why would she be? I mean, yes, right, nicole and eric, obviously, they have a history, but– jada, what is it? There’s something you’re not telling me.

Jada: You know what, I– I think I’m gonna go ahead and call it a night.

Rafe: No, no, no, no. No. ‘Cause you looked worried there for a second. Did eric say something to you?

Jada: It’s all good, boss. Enjoy your evening.

Chloe: Wait, so you want to do a background check on the woman that your ex-husband is dating?

Nicole: Why is that so weird? Like I said, nobody knows anything about jada.

Chloe: We know plenty. Her dad was a respected doctor here in salem. He’s one of steve johnson’s oldest friends.

Nicole: But what about her? Who knows what she could be hiding?

Chloe: Oh, my goodness, do you even hear yourself?

Nicole: Think about it, chloe. How many people have showed up in this town over the years and lied about who they really are and had this dark side that they didn’t want anyone to know about?

Chloe: Ooh. Well, I’m pretty sure that, you know, your husband, the police commissioner, who hired jada–I’m guessing that he probably did a background check to make sure she doesn’t have a secret past of being a serial killer. Come on.

Nicole: I’m not saying she’s a serial killer, okay? I’m just saying that–

Chloe: What? What? What are you saying?

Nicole: I don’t know, okay? I don’t–I don’t know! I don’t know.

Stephanie: I really am sorry it didn’t work out with you and nicole. Must be very painful.

Eric: It was rough at first, you know? But we’ve moved on. I mean, she’s with rafe now. And, you know, I’m dating.

Stephanie: Glad to hear that. And it’s going well?

Eric: It is. You know. What about you? Anyone special?

Stephanie: There was someone last summer, but as soon as september came, he totally ghosted me.

Eric: I’m sorry. But that was a year ago. Maybe it’s time for you to get back out there.

Stephanie: I don’t know. I’ve been mostly focused on work right now. Besides, the only guy who’s shown any real interest in me lately is a total jackass.

Alex: Dad, I’m telling you, stephanie is incredible. She’s like this goddess, yet she’s down-to-earth. And she’s–she’s– she’s cool, and she’s funny, and she’s smart. She’s everything I’ve ever looked for in a woman. I’m telling you, she is the one. I know it.

Justin: Really? I’m a little surprised to hear you say that. I don’t think you’ve ever talked like that about anyone.

Alex: Well, that’s because I’ve never met anybody like stephanie before. Just one problem.

Justin: What’s that?

Alex: Sonny won’t let me anywhere near her.

Bonnie: I thought he bats for the other team.

Alex: No, it’s this work thing. He hired stephanie to do pr for titan, so he’s insisting that I keep it strictly business. So here I am, completely in love, head over heels with this girl, and he’s telling me to back off. Talk about a killjoy.

Chad: What are you doing just standing there? Call an ambulance!

Leo: All right, sorry. I need an ambulance to titan headquarters! Sonny kiriakis was stabbed.

Chad: 12th floor, executive suite. The security will direct them.

Leo: Did you get that? Okay, thank you. They’re on their way. Is he gonna be okay?

Chad: You better hope so. ‘Cause if he dies, you die. -Hi, dr. Rick. It’s julie. -[ Gasps ] That’s me.

Chad: That’s it, sonny, all right, I just need you to hold on, okay? Where is that ambulance?

Leo: It’s on the way.

Chad: Did you really even call one?

Leo: What?

Chad: Well, this is what you wanted, right? Sonny bleeding out on the floor?

Leo: No! No! Chad, I didn’t do this. I showed up and he was like this. I–I came here to apologize!

Chad: Liar! After you lost craig, you made it very clear that you wanted revenge. Gwen told us you were gonna pick us off one by one. Well, you’ve done it.

Leo: No! No! No!

Chad: You killed abby. You stabbed sonny. You are gonna spend the rest of your life in a cage. Better yet, you’ll get the needle and go straight to hell! Where is the ambulance?

Leo: I’m gonna go check!

[Suspenseful music]

Justin: Sonny is being a smart ceo. It’s his job to protect titan.

Alex: And to support his big bro. Shouldn’t he want to see me with the woman of my dreams?

Justin: I’m sure he does. But you weren’t around when leo stark served sonny with a bogus sexual harassment lawsuit.

Alex: I heard all about that.

Justin: Yeah, well, sonny was innocent, obviously, and ultimately cleared, but the experience was devastating. So your brother just wants to keep you from going through the same hell that he did.

Alex: Dad, you really think stephanie would sue me?

Justin: I’d rather not find out.

Alex: Come on, dad, I mean–

Justin: Look, if she didn’t work for titan, I would say woo her to her heart’s content. But as long as she’s an employee of the company, the wisest course of action is to not get involved with her.

Alex: Have I told you how much I love having a lawyer for a father?

Justin: I hope so. Because I can help save you from these landmines that will blow up your life.

Alex: Dad, but–

Justin: I know. I know. I know. I know. I know. But really, my strong advice for you is to stay clear of stephanie.

Bonnie: Okay, with all due respect, I think that’s a load of crap.

Eric: Jackass, huh? What happened?

Stephanie: It’s no big deal. Let’s just–let’s just say the guy can’t take a hint.

Eric: He didn’t–

Stephanie: No. He’s not a predator or anything like that. He’s just relentless. He asked me to drinks. He asked me to dinner. He practically asked me to marry him. But I completely blew him off. It’s so not worth talking about. I want to hear about the woman you’re dating.

Eric: [Laughs] It’s new. It’s getting to know you kind of thing, you know, so far, so good, and so– actually, she’s right there. Um, stephanie, this is detective jada hunter, and jada, this is my cousin, stephanie johnson.

Jada: Oh, nice to meet you.

Stephanie: Nice to meet you. Wait, aren’t you marcus hunter’s daughter?

Jada: That’s right.

Stephanie: Steve and kayla johnson are my parents. I was at your eighth birthday part.

Jada: Oh, my god, steph! I didn’t know you lived in salem.

Stephanie: No, I haven’t for a long time. I just moved back to town. It is so great to see you. Hopefully, we can get together soon.

Jada: I’d like that.

Stephanie: I should get going. Have a good night, you guys.

Eric: Yeah, it was good to see you.

Stephanie: You too.

Jada: Goodnight.

Stephanie: Bye.

Jada: Bye.

Eric: Such a small world, right?

Jada: Yeah.

Eric: Hey, good news, your air conditioner is fixed.

Jada: Great. Thanks.

Eric: Hey. Is everything okay?

Jada: Uh, well, we really didn’t get a chance to talk this morning, since it was obvious that you needed to have a private conversation with your ex-wife.

Chloe: Nicole, I am not trying to be hard on you. I promise. I just think that you are overreacting.

Nicole: Yeah. So you keep telling me.

Chloe: Yeah, well, it’s not really registering with you.

Nicole: Chloe, I– I told you, I’m–I’m–

Chloe: You have concerns, concerns, I know. I keep hearing that. You are concerned when eric and jada went upstairs after their first date, and you called me a few days later concerned because you can’t stop thinking about eric.

Nicole: Yeah, I had a sex dream. Excuse me if I wanted to share it with someone I trust.

Chloe: Well, I’m glad that you did, but you also felt the need to share that with eric, over my very strong objections. I mean, come on, did you even see him?

Nicole: Yes. He came up the stairs with his toolbox while I was talking to jada.

Chloe: And?

Nicole: And, you know, she went back to her room to–to get dressed.

Chloe: Then what?

Nicole: Well, then– then eric asked me what I was doing there, and I told him I had a dream about him this morning.

Chloe: Oh. Oh, no, no, no.

Nicole: All right, relax. Relax. I chickened out. I chickened out about the sex part. Okay, and I told him that, in the dream, he came over to my house to make sloppy joes.

Chloe: Oh, wow, that might be even worse. Did he buy any of that?

Nicole: I don’t know. I think he did. But then–but then, he mentioned to me that he had a dream also. And in the dream, I knocked on his door to deliver a singing telegram. Oh–oh, my god.

Chloe: What?

Nicole: Well, if I lied about my dream, what if eric lied about his? What if he had a sex dream too? My asthma felt anything but normal.

Nicole: I mean, what if eric did what I did? What if he had a sex dream and lied about it?

Chloe: Well, I guess it’s possible. But that would be a huge coincidence.

Nicole: Oh. What, a bigger coincidence than us dreaming about each other on the same morning?

Chloe: Definitely. I mean, I dream about the people in my life all the time.

Nicole: Okay, so then it’s more likely for eric to dream of me delivering him a singing telegram than me giving him–

Chloe: Okay, I see your point.

Nicole: Right? It’s not so much of a stretch. It makes sense.

Chloe: Okay, well, I guess there’s really only one way to settle this.

Nicole: Okay, what’s that?

Chloe: Uh, get your phone and call him right now.

Eric: I’m sorry about this morning. I mean, I had no idea nicole was gonna stop by.

Jada: What was she doing here anyway?

Eric: She stopped by to pick up some takeout, you know? And she was here, and so she wanted to just see how I was doing.

Jada: Right.

Eric: It was just a friendly visit.

Jada: You sure about that?

Eric: I am. But obviously, you’re not.

Jada: No, I’m not. Uh, it’S… you know what, it’s none of my business, but let’s just drop it.

Eric: No, no, no. Let’s not. Please, if there’s something you need to tell me, just say it.

Jada: You know I told nicole that you and I slept together, right? Well, she just seemed a little too interested in that fact. And, I mean, especially since she is married to someone else.

Rafe: Stephanie?

Stephanie: Rafe?

Rafe: Hi.

Stephanie: Oh, it’s great to see you.

Rafe: You too.

Stephanie: Oh, that was a very nice, appropriate hug.

Rafe: That was–uh, okay. I don’t follow.

Stephanie: I was just remembering the time that your lookalike, “fake rafe,” got a little handsy.

Rafe: Ah, yeah. Yeah, that guy. He was a real lech.

Stephanie: Sounds like someone I know.

[Sighs]

Justin: Excuse me?

Bonnie: I’m sorry, but you’re dead wrong on this one, hon.

Justin: Mm. For trying to save titan from a lawsuit?

Bonnie: Damn straight. You cannot live your life fearing what might happen, honey.

Justin: It’s not fear. It’s common sense.

Bonnie: Oh, please. People these days are so afraid to take a chance that they are losing that one chance at real love. Who cares if someone sues you for sexual harassment?

Justin: How can you say that after what happened with harrison?

Bonnie: That was a completely different situation, justin. And so is what happened to sonny. Alex is not a creep. He’s not a con. He’s a good man with a good heart. And he thinks he found the person he belongs with.

Alex: I don’t even just think it. I know it.

Bonnie: See? There you have it. And if you are lucky enough to find that one person in this world that you belong with, well, you can’t just let that person go. You gotta hang on. What if I didn’t take that chance and kiss you that day? Aren’t you glad I did?

Justin: Of course. But you and I don’t work together. Plus, there’s a big difference between taking a chance and ignoring what stephanie wants.

Bonnie: Well, obviously if it’s a no-go, alex backs off. Look, all I’m saying is, I laid it all on the line, and my reward is I got the best thing that ever happened to me. Who are we to say that your son shouldn’t do the same, hm?

Alex: Have I also told you how much I love having bonnie as a stepmother? Oh, my god.

[Cell phone ringing]

Justin: You can enlighten me after I take this call. Hey, chad. What’s up?

Chad: Justin. I’m sorry. I have bad news.

Rafe: So how long are you in town for?

[Cell phone ringing] Oh, my–I’m sorry. I–yep, I have to take this. Hernandez. What? Yeah, I’ll be right there.

Stephanie: Bad news?

Rafe: Yeah, you could say that. Your cousin, sonny, has been stabbed.

Justin: Thanks, chad. We’ll be right there.

Bonnie: Justin, you’re white as a sheet. What’s wrong?

Justin: Sonny’s been stabbed.

Bonnie: What? Oh, my god, honey!

Alex: Is he okay?

Justin: I don’t know. Chad found him in the office. The paramedics are taking him to the hospital right now.

Alex: I’m gonna grab the car.

Bonnie: Go, go, go, go, go. Oh, honey, honey, honey, honey.

Justin: Oh, my god.

Bonnie: Oh, my god.

[Indistinct radio chatter]

[Suspenseful music]

Some days, it felt like asthma was holding me back.

Nicole: I am not calling eric.

Chloe: I know. I was just saying that to make a point, namely that you need to get a grip.

Nicole: Well, thank you, chloe, for all your understanding and support.

Chloe: I’m just trying to make you see that you’re acting like a crazy person.

Nicole: You know what, maybe I–maybe I shouldn’t have come here.

Chloe: No, look, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that to you. I know that having jada in the picture has been really difficult for you. But you have to see what you’re doing. I mean, have you thought of what could happen if jada goes to rafe and tells him how overly interested you are in eric?

Nicole: That is not gonna happen.

Chloe: How do you know that? She came right out and told you that they’d slept together, so she’s clearly very direct. Nicole, I love you. You are my best friend. But I have to be honest with you. Rafe is your husband. Now, I’m not saying that you have to stay in that marriage. But you have to make a decision. You either end your marriage, or you work on it. But whatever choice you make, you have to decide. And you can’t keep obsessing about eric.

Eric: So what did nicole say?

Jada: Nothing. It was–it was just a little awkward.

Eric: Yeah, I can imagine. Listen, we were supposed to have breakfast this morning, but that didn’t happen. And I’d like to make up for that. Have you had dinner yet?

Jada: I haven’t, actually.

Eric: Well, I do have some connections, and I can whip up a grilled cheese, some fries, maybe a milkshake?

Jada: Mmm, that sounds–

[Cell phone ringing] Oh, hold that thought. Hunter. I’ll be right there. Listen, gonna have to take a raincheck on dinner. I gotta get back to work.

[Dramatic music]

Rafe: How’s sonny?

Chad: They just took him to the hospital. I should probably get there.

Rafe: I have a few questions. Promise it’ll just take a minute. Sonny was in the office when you found him?

Chad: Yeah, when I walked in, he was lying right there with a knife in his back.

Rafe: Anyone else here?

Chad: Yeah, someone standing over him.

Rafe: Who?

Chad: Leo stark.

Leo: How could this have happened again? Oh, my god, sonny! Wait. The knife. Holy–it was the same knife!

Stephanie: I heard about sonny. Are you okay?

Chad: [Sniffles]

[Monitor beeping]

[Rapid beeping] What’s happening? Someone answer me! Please! What’s happening?

Bonnie: Justin, sonny is gonna be okay. Do you hear me? Sonny is gonna be okay.

Justin: Oh, my god.

Bonnie: No. No.

Jada: What have we got?

Rafe: Well, it looks like you were right.

Jada: About what?

Rafe: About leo stark. Chad dimera found him standing here over sonny kiriakis, who had a knife in his back.

Jada: A knife?

Rafe: Yeah. And it looks like we might have found the murder weapon in the abigail dimera case.

Leo: It was the same knife. My hit list. How did this get here? And how did my list get there?

Rafe: And there’s this too.

Jada: What is it?

Rafe: Leo’s hit list. Gwen said that leo kept a list of all the people he wanted to get back at. Looks like he just checked off another one.

Leo: This doesn’t make any sense. I never crossed off sonny’s name. Oh, my god! I’m being framed!
