Brook Lynn: Good evening, everyone. I know you’re all anxious for the main event to begin, and the concert will start in just a matter of minutes. But first, we will announce the results of our ugly christmas sweater contest. And look who we have here — our first runner-up, detective dante falconeri. Let’s give this guy a big round of applause.

[ Applause ] Okay. When did you enter the contest? I didn’T. I don’t know what she’s talking about. This is my favorite sweater.

[ Chuckles ] I didn’t think you’d come. Neither did I. But dante informed me that the ccrb may be reviewing my case in a few months. Thanks to your letter or whatever else you did. Which was what, exactly?

[ Sighs ] Looks like brook lynn pulled it off. Yeah, just in the saint nick of time.

[ Laughs ] You get it? Yeah. Your holiday humor is on point.

[ Chuckles ] Look who it is. Mrs. Claus. Oh, with my trusted assistant elf. That’s me. Like we practiced. Merry christmas.

[ Gasps ] Thank you. Hey, I just got home, and I’m getting everything ready. “Christina comes home for christmas” will be all set when you get here. So text me when you leave trina’s, okay?

Okay, I’m ready to give this another try, because no matter what happened, linc needs to be stopped. Yes. Uh, well, we let the kids open one present each. Oh. I was starting to think that we weren’t going to see you before the show at rice plaza tonight. Well, I have a couple minutes before I have to go. Is that how you do it? Is that how you’re able to always rise above the insanity that is our own family? Because that is all I want to do. I remember that genetics don’t dictate your actions. You’re your own person. And you can never not be a cassadine, but you can ground yourself in other things. Such as? Find out what makes you feel alive. You. Spencer. Not spencer cassadine. Does that make sense? I’m not sure. I want it to. Find out what makes you happy, figure out what that is, and then hang on to that, and let that be your guide. And I promise you, this is not gonna last forever. At some point, you will be able to ignore their attempts to pull you in, and you will just follow your own heart.

I spoke to the lab. Pending the postmortem, they ran rory’s bloodwork. Finn: And? They found trace amounts of snake venom. Which means that potentially, esme is at it again. No, that’s impossible.

And, uh, cameron’s not the only one who believes that. Elizabeth: She had her chance to kill me and she didn’t, so doesn’t that mean she might not be the killer? I wouldn’t be so sure. Mayor collins. Now, granted, no one knows where she is right now, but according to your timeline, nikolas confessed to killing someone who’s not actually dead. And that raises a whole host of questions. Mainly, why would nikolas confess to a crime he didn’t commit? Well, I guess the obvious answer is that he is trying to protect you, because he believed you had tried to kill esme. Esme and I were struggling over a letter, and she just did a little flip off the parapet. I had nothing to do with it. It was an accident. Yeah, well, when a court finds out that just moments before that struggle, you had found out that esme had had sex with your husband, who’s gonna believe it was an accident, hmm? But if I open pandora’s box, who knows what’s gonna come out? If you want to risk the spotlight being shown on your duplicitous family. Ha. Alright. I’ll bite. What do you want? This is what nikolas offered me as a settlement. Whoa. My nephew is very generous.

He had so much more life left to give. I know. It’s just not fair.

[ Crying ] Dante, make sure that earring goes down to forensics in case it turns out to be a lead. There could be dna or fingerprints on it. Will do. Hey. [ Laughs ] Well, if you mean that you’re both stubborn and you act before you think — no, more like everything I touch causes somebody else pain. Isn’t that a little bit melodramatic, even for you, spencer? No. Because all of this with rory and everything that trina is going through, that’s all on me. How is that possible? Because I’m the one who brought esme to town. Think about everything that’s happened. It’s all gone to hell. The sex tape of joss and cam, trina going on trial, and now all these hook attacks. Listen, spencer, you can’t help trina or anybody else if you’re blaming yourself. Don’t you blame me, grandmother? No, I don’T. No, you’re not responsible for the things that esme does. Ava has reason to believe that esme isn’t guilty for all the hook attacks, which means she couldn’t have done this to rory. All we can do is trust the police to figure it out. I heard you waited in the er with the wife for two hours. I didn’t want to leave before she was seen. But it was the end of my shift. I was off the clock. I — don’t worry. You’re not in ouble. Actually, quite the opposite. Ms. Landry came in today. She’s gonna press charges against her husband.

[ Sighs ] Uh, the way she was talking, I wasn’t sure she’d go through with it. She actually said it was because of you. Rachel realized her husband never would have sat with her for that long. But if what he really cared about was our relationship, why didn’t he just talk to me about it? ‘Cause sometimes that’s a really hard thing to do. Why are men terrified of feelings? That wasn’t a rhetorical question. Oh. Oh, so — so now I’m speaking for all men. Okay, you said you wanted to help me. Help me understand why men do stupid things. Why they take the arguably more difficult route when they could simply open up to the person that they’re close to.

[ Sighs ] I felt… scared. That’s not a good sign. No, it’s not. And I like rory more and more as I get to know him. He’s — he’s sweet and considerate. And he really makes me feel special. My friendships with you and joss are pretty much the only things that make sense right now. I’m trapped at wyndemere for the rest of my sentence. And then… who knows? So I looked up arrests of exotic animal smugglers for the last 10 years. We got about five hits in the port charles area. Okay. Well, can you get on as soon as possible? Yeah, will do. It’s been two months since oz haggerty was killed. The hook’s letter basically said, stay out of her way, and you’ll be fine. Could this mean that she’s done? It could. Or it could mean she’s nice and rested and ready for her next victim.

much as I’d like to believethe attacks are over, serial killers rarely stop on their own. This is the longest break so far. Yeah. The lead-up to haggerty’s killing was two weeks. This has been longer than that. Isn’t that good news? Well, no one dying is good news, but it’s premature to think the killer is done. She could have been arrested for another crime or left town for some reason. Well, whoever she is and wherever she is, she’s got to be stopped and brought to justice. He helped joss get ava to the hospital. He was also at charlie’s the night that brando got attacked. And he was at brando’s garage when diane miller got attacked, so… seems like a pattern to me. Sonny saw a pattern, too. That’s why he had him…detained. Detained him how? I don’t have all the details, nor do I want them. But sonny got dex out of police custody, and then dex just vanished. Josslyn figure that sonny was behind it, and, um…she went to pozzulo’s to look for him. Well, obviously, she found him. He’s sitting or… standing right there. Yeah, well, it’s more complicated than that. The guy who was questioning dex was not listening to josslyn. She had to call michael for backup. And then that’s when things got pretty heated, dangerous. That’s ridiculous. Sonny would never let any of his people hurt josslyn. All I know is that it was a major confrontation. If joss was mad at sonny before, it’s on a whole nother level now. Joss is upset because her mom and sonny split up, and now sonny has moved on to nina. So I sympathize, but sonny has always been more than decent to josslyn. It — it’s — it’s not about that. Whatever happened at pozzulo’s, whatever sonny did to dex, josslyn hates him for that. Alright. I don’t understand. Did something happen to britt? Obrecht: She’ll never have children. Aunt liesl, she could change her mind about that. When britta’s gone, there’ll be nothing. Well, obviously, this dex is manipulating her. If joss is mad at sonny, then she’s going to jump on anything that makes him look bad. And dex knows that, and he’s using it. Does anyone work here? And then when his memory loss started setting in and his — his defenses were — were going away… …I saw another side to my father. We were so honest with each other at that time. More honest than we’ve — we’ve ever been before he even got sick. Alzheimer’s takes a lot. But at the end, those times we had… …they were a gift.

[ Both chuckle ] Josslyn, she stopped by, and she made it very clear that she thinks that this, you and me, is just only temporary, and then my head started spinning, and I started to wonder if all this pain and agony that we have to go through to be in this relationship — if it would be worth it if we didn’t survive. The only thing we can do is move forward. Carly has, right? Yeah, yeah. Okay, so? I-I totally get that. And then I see the blocks, and then I… I see this “mommy” picture, and then I start to think about what it will mean if I get closer to donna. How so? It’s really awkward for me to talk about, because I feel like it stops me from moving forward. But you know this — the reality is, I am a woman whose baby was stolen from me, a daughter who was kept from me her entire life. So I have this big hole that will never go away inside of my heart that I always keep trying to fill. And the more time that I spend with donna… …the more I’m afraid that the lines could be blurred. We agreed on a fee for you to tell drew some story about how both parents were dead so there would be no one else for him to go looking for. The terms changed. I’m not made of money. That’s a shame. Maybe I should call drew and tell him what’s going on. Or I could find that nice young woman that he’s lying to on your behalf. Or… you could pay me what I’m worth, and I’ll think about calling drew back and telling him that I remember who this girl’s papa is and how the whole family moved on to the great beyond. [ Scoffs ] What makes you think — my son. Oscar. He was sick, too. Is it…? It’s leukemia. I’m so sorry. What do the doctors say? I’m in stage iv.

[ Sighs ] So, yeah, it’s pretty aggressive, and unless I can find a family member or a close enough match for a bone marrow donation… …I don’t know.

I figured it couldn’t get that much worse, right? Well, stage iv. What’s the prognosis now? I’m getting chemo, but it’s not enough. I need a bone marrow transplant, and the best chance for a match is with a family member, but I don’t have any. Does — does michael know? Yeah, he does now. He immediately forgave me for keeping it a secret. He’s been wonderful and supportive. Yeah. No surprise there. The only other people who know are tj and my doctors. If we had known, we could have helped. I want to shield wiley from this for as long as possible, and the quartermaines and carly, god love them, but they wear their hearts on their sleeves. Could you imagine if brook lynn or olivia found out? One look at them, and wiley would know something is wrong. Promise me. [ Sighs ] And I think she loves him back. I only just found out about the pregnancy myself. I… I guess congratulations are in order. I’m assuming ava’s as much in the dark about this as I was. Boy, nick’s gonna have a lot of explaining to do with his wife. Not only did he get another woman pregnant, but he’s also potentially harboring a known fugitive on his estate. Well, you won’t have me to bother you about it anymore. But I’m sure once I call the commissioner, she’s gonna want to get to the bottom of this. No, you can’t do that. Sure I can. Esme’s a danger to everyone in this town. And if you think I’m gonna protect nick for you, you’re mistaken. Spencer’s been released from pentonville? That’s right. Oh, just in time for the holidays. But seeing spencer made me wonder if I can keep seeing rory. I mean, how can I pretend to have feelings for rory that I actually have for someone else? Well, some could. But not you. It was on her when social services took custody of her. It’s what she used to find me. Clever girl. How could she not be? She’s ours. What’s she like? Other than clever. Tell me about our daughter, ryan. Our esme. Willow: How is the search going? Drew said you’re helping him find my birth parents. Where I can. I mean, it’s really the drew show. [ Chuckles ] I know. It’s just so much can go wrong in a pregnancy. Yeah, but you’re gonna have the best medical care this time. What more could you need? Did joan have any siblings? None that she mentioned. I just assumed she was an only child. Even if she wasn’t, most of us lost touch with our families when we joined the commune. Right. Yeah, what about — um, what about willow’s birth father? Did joan ever mention who he might be? I wish I could help you. Joan was a troubled soul. You knew our daughter before I even knew she existed. And now I know her in a way that you could only dream of. I stayed away from her because I wanted to protect her. The world sees me as crazy, dangerous. I just didn’t want her to grow up with that incredibly misguided association. You succeeded. She’s very sure of herself. And we’ve built a special relationship. And you believe the word of a psychopath? Well, nothing is definitive, of course. But I know ryan. And not only does his logic make sense, I know he would do whatever he could do to protect me. So if he had information that could stop the killer, he would definitely share it. At least when I thought it was esme, I knew who to look out for. Now the killer is back to being an anonymous, scary, shadow figure. That’s why you need to stay here with your mom and curtis and be extra vigilant.

[ Sighs ] Okay. Thanks for letting me know. At least it’s not all bad news. Really? How so? Maybe esme left town after attacking cam’s mom on the docks. Hopefully that was the last we’ve seen of her. What a way to end the year. Ironic, isn’t it, ace? This time last year, spencer and I were both free and in love. Now we’re both locked up and alone. I’m not sure about anything. Except that I don’t need to be behind bars to still be in prison. Nikolas: Prisons are of our own making. I mean, you are assuming a lot about rory and trina’s relationship. I know when there’s no hope. Do you remember that book you used to read with your grandmother, the one about the baby birds? Yeah, the nest was always in danger from, you know, the wind or the — was it a woodcutter? You could not get enough of it. You loved how the mother and the siblings saved that baby bird again and again. You remember that little bird’s name? Mnh-mnh. It’s hope. Mm. And the mama bird kept saying — “hold on to hope.” That’s right. That’s kid stuff. I think it’s a lesson for everyone, no matter what age. Sometimes hope is all we have in this world.
