Nancy: No, no, it’s not that kind of an emergency. I need some advice and I didn’t have anyplace else to go.

Bonnie: Oh, honey, you came to the right place. Tell me all about it.

Nancy: Yesterday, craig and i signed the divorce papers. Now there’s nothing stopping that little gold-digging fiancée of his from getting everything he wants.

Leo: “In the matter of”… oh, my god. It can’t be. It is. It’s A… prenup. On our wedding day? What the hell?

Craig: Hey.

Ava: It’s ava vitali.

Abigail: What do you want?

Ava: Well, I have some information that I think you will find very interesting.

Abigail: What kind of information?

Ava: Well, why don’t you come down to the police station and find out? You’ll be glad that you did.

Nicole: Can I get a double espresso, please?

Eric: Coming right up.

Nicole: Uh… I thought I was having vivid dreams before, but this one takes the cake.

Ava: You came.

Abigail: What are you doing here?

Ava: What do you think? I don’t hang around the police station for fun. Well, at least not anymore.

Abigail: So you’ve been arrested.

Ava: Yes, by the police commissioner who I used to sleep with. He accused me of setting him up.

Abigail: Well, I never believed that rafe actually planted evidence in the first place, but what does any of this have to do with me?

Ava: It’s just a big misunderstanding. And I think that you can help me resolve it.

Abigail: You want your story in “the spectator”? Are you hoping for a little public sympathy?

Ava: No, I don’t want you to interview me, abigail. I want you to talk to trask on my behalf.

Abigail: Why would I do that?

Ava: Because I can help you in return.

Gwen: Gabi.

Gabi: Hey, gwen. What brings you here?

Gwen: I was actually thinking of booking this place. It’d be a wonderful venue for a little celebration.

Gabi: Oh, and what are you celebrating, pray tell?

Gwen: Xander and I are getting married today. Actually, we’re not the only ones; it’s gonna be a double wedding, and a fab one at that.

Craig: I’m glad I tracked you down, ’cause we’ve got a lot to do before we walk down that aisle in a few hours.

Leo: Including me signing this? With no warning at all? No explanation?

Craig: What are you talking about?

Leo: I thought you loved me.

Craig: I do.

Leo: Trusted me.

Craig: I do.

Leo: Then how could you ambush me with a prenup on our wedding day?

Craig: Prenup?

Leo: All that poison people poured into your ear about me– you believe them, don’t you?

Craig: Leo… I swear, I’ve never seen this before.

Leo: What? Well, then where did it come from?

Chloe: From me.

Nicole: [Chuckles] Um… welcome back.

[Chuckles awkwardly] Okay. When did you get back to salem?

Eric: This morning. Yeah, my dad–he had some paperwork to get done and I volunteered to watch the bar.

Nicole: So why did you come back?

[Tense music]

Eric, did you leave the priesthood? As a struggling actor,

Eric: No, I’m still a priest.

Nicole: Oh. Then why aren’t you wearing your collar?

Eric: I only have to wear it when I’m saying mass or performing a sacrament. And the reason why I’m home– because the last time I was here it was a bit intense.

Nicole: Yeah, your mom’s exorcism.

Eric: Yeah. And I had some free time, so I, uh… I got on a plane, you know? I just wanted to be with the people that I love. I miss my family and I miss my friends and… I missed you.

[Lively jazzy music]

Chloe: A double wedding, huh?

Gwen: Yeah. I mean, it hasn’t really been a fantasy of mine, truth be told, but the thing is is my really old, dear friend lives in salem now. And he’s also in a rush to be married with his fiancé. So he suggested we take the plunge together. And he’s offered to pick up the tab.

Gabi: Oh, what a great friend. Anybody I know?

Gwen: His name’s matty cooper. You might know him as leo stark.

Gabi: Leo stark? Are you serious? He tried to ruin will and sonny’s lives– my daughter’s daddies. You know what? I hate that weasel with a vengeance.

Gwen: Okay, well, I know he’s not perfect. I mean, who is? He’s my friend and I’m terribly fond of him.

Gabi: You may be the only person on earth who is.

Gwen: I’ve also heard that his fiancé is quite mad about him too.

Gabi: Oh, okay. God help that guy. Must be a man, although i wouldn’t put it past leo to marry some rich old woman and take her for everything she’s worth.

Gwen: Okay, why don’t we just agree to disagree on matty. Yeah? Because he’s getting married, as I said, he’s a very good friend of mine, and I’m gonna marry xander and I want everything to just be perfect. And I do think this will be a very nice venue for a little intimate dinner after the ceremony.

Gwen: Hey, isn’t locking down the venue the maid of honor’s job?

Abigail: Matron, actually. And it’s abigail.

Gabi: Did you say abigail? Abigail who you drugged and sent to the loony bin? She’s your matron of honor?

Gwen: We’re moving past all that.

Gabi: Even the sleeping with her husband part? Okay, you know what? Never mind. None of my business.

Gwen: No, it isn’T.

Gabi: Besides, I really– I’m so happy right now. I am so really, really, impressed with myself. Ooh, more than usual.

Gwen: Why? What have you done?

Gabi: Well because–[Drumming on table] Drumroll please– I got ava vitali arrested.

[Laughs]

Abigail: How could you possibly help me?

Ave: Well, if I recall correctly, both you and your husband are pretty eager to find out who bashed you over the head that night at the air field?

Abigail: Hmm. You mean the night of your harmless prank wearing the sarah mask? The night you saw nothing and know nothing about?

Ava: Yeah, well, maybe i wasn’t being completely up-front.

Abigail: Hmm. So unlike you.

Ava: Last time I was here, chad came and he paid me a visit and offered me a quid pro quo. I give him a name and he will go to bat for me with the da, get me a deal.

Abigail: Which you refused.

Ava: I did, yes.

Abigail: But now you’re wanting to talk, which means you are guilty as hell.

Ava: Oh. I’ve been wrongly accused, abigail. And I need a little assistance. Look, the way I see it is if I tell you attacked you that night and you take that to trask and get me a deal, we both get justice.

Nancy: You know, signing those divorce papers was very hard for me, bonnie, obviously. But… craig was sweet and he made every effort to help me get through it.

Bonnie: Yeah? How did he do that?

Nancy: Well, he bought me a drink and then he told me how much our life together meant to him and, um… how much he treasured the moments, the fun times that we had together. And, um… well, then he asked me to come to his wedding and said that it would mean a lot to him.

Bonnie: I’m sorry, I don’t think I heard you right. Did you just say he–

Nancy: He invited me to his wedding.

Bonnie: To leo stark?

Nancy: Well, who else is he marrying?

Bonnie: [Scoffs]

Nancy: Oh, come on, bonnie. Get your jaw up off the floor.

Bonnie: Well, why wouldn’t it be on the floor? For the man who left you after 30 years of marriage and making two children together– not to mention treasuring all those “fun times” you had together– for him to think it would be fun for you to attend his wedding to someone else?

Nancy: I know. I know, bonnie. It would be hard for me to see him marrying that horrible leo stark, but… I told him I’d think about it.

Bonnie: Exactly how much did you have to drink before you told him that?

Nancy: Hardly anything. I was very sober.

[Sighs] But I have to admit, bonnie, I was… I was kind of touched. I…[Sighs] I care about craig and I always will and… that’s why I need your advice.

Bonnie: Really? Do you really need to know what my advice is?

Nancy: I guess I already know what it is.

Bonnie: Okay, then. In case you had the slightest doubt, I have exactly three words of advice: Just say no.

Craig: Chloe, why did you do this?

Chloe: Well, I knew that you would be busy with your wedding arrangements, and so I had justin take care of that for you. But since you are marrying my father for love, it’s not gonna be a problem signing that, right, leo? I mean, you can just read it. It’s pretty straightforward. Oh, and you’re going to need… this.

Eric: So how you been?

Nicole: Good. Good. I’m good.

Eric: Good. How’s holly?

Nicole: Oh. Oh. Holly is– she is such a little lady now. You know, she absolutely loves to sing.

Eric: [Laughs]

Nicole: She knows all the words to all the songs in “annie.”

Eric: Oh, really? That’s great.

Nicole: Yeah. Yeah. Watched it about a million times.

[Both laugh] I really hope that you get a chance to see her.

Eric: Yeah, I’d love that.

Nicole: [Chuckles]

Eric: So I hear ej got cleared of, uh… sami’s kidnapping.

Nicole: Yeah.

Eric: And, um, you two still…a thing?

Nicole: No. No. We’re not. I realized that we are not right for each other.

Eric: I’m happy to hear that. And you know what? I meant what I said at new year’S. I just… I just want you to be happy with whomever it is that you’re with. But ej was just not the man that I–

Nicole: I’m seeing rafe.

Eric: Rafe’s a good man.

Nicole: [Exhales]

Eric: Yeah. You two have been friends for a really long time.

Nicole: Yeah. We have, but it’S…now turned into something more.

Eric: How did that happen? I mean– I mean… if you don’t mind me asking.

Gwen: Ava’s been arrested?

Gabi: And I made it happen. That bitch is gonna pay for framing my brother, not to mention moving in with jake just to spite me.

Gwen: Huh. How’d you pull that off?

Gabi: Well, I found the dirtbag that she paid to frame my brother, and he coughed up a recording admitting everything.

Gwen: Wow. Well done.

Gabi: Best part was I got a front row seat to rafe arresting her. I mean, talk about karma, right? That skank is probably cooling off her heels right this second at the station. And next– next stop is jail and then court and then statesville, where she’s gonna hopefully rot forever. No way out. I mean, can you imagine how desperate ava must feel right now?

[Inhales deeply]

Ava: So? What did trask say?

Abigail: Not a chance.

Ava: Why the hell not?

Abigail: You framed the police commissioner, ava. It’s a felony. The person who hit me would only be charged assault, and it’s not nearly enough to interest trask.

Ava: It wasn’t just assault. They kidnapped you. They took you to a desert island and held you captive.

Abigail: I reminded her of all that, but she still thinks that you’re a bigger fish than whoever knocked me out.

Ava: So what if I told you that this person has committed other crimes since then?

Abigail: What other crimes?

Ava: So sarah’s not off with rex?

Gwen: No. She’s fending off bugs on some tropical deserted island that kristen sent her to.

Ava: [Laughs] Kristen does not mess around, does she?

Gwen: Exactly.

Ava: So that’s why you helped break her out of jail– because at any moment she could tell xander where to find his not-so-runaway bride. You switched out the antidote? How is that even possible?

Gwen: [Sighs] Because I still had some left from when I used it on abigail.

Ava: So you had that just tucked away on the odd chance that down the road, you might wanna drive somebody else out of their mind?

Gwen: And you can thank god that I did, because you and i both know that if rolf’s antidote could bring back sarah, xander would go back to her in a heartbeat.

Ava: Trust me. What this person has done– it’ll give trask a much bigger fish than me.

Abigail: Unless you’re just jerking me around.

Ava: Why would I do that, abigail? I wanna get out of here.

Abigail: Great. You want this so bad, this fish is so big, then who is it, hmm? Who is it and what have they done? Don’t waste my time. Okay, if you’re not gonna spill it right here, right now, then I’m leaving.

Ava: Wait. I’ll tell you.

Bonnie: You cannot go to that wedding, nancy.

Nancy: Bonnie, I know it won’t be easy for me. But–

Bonnie: But? But? How can that word even be in that sentence? I know you had a drink with craig and I know it was all sweet and comforting and that he went on about how great things had been between you. But seriously, girl, the man broke your heart.

Nancy: Oh, yes, I know. But… bonnie, it really wasn’t his fault.

Bonnie: Ugh, nancy, that’s “irrevelant.” No, is it–irrelevant. Relevant?

Nancy: Neither. It’s neither, bonnie.

[Sighs] Look… craig didn’t leave me because I wasn’t enough. And he didn’t go for a younger woman because he wanted to stoke his ego. I mean, he was a man trying to deal with his own sexual orientation.

Bonnie: Let me guess, you’ve been reading up on the topic of failed marriages.

Nancy: Well, I’ve been reading a lot of books, but– in general, but not just about failed marriages. They’re failed marriages that deal with, well, when one member of a marriage is gay. I mean, from everything that I’ve read, I feel like I have so much more empathy for what craig has been going through. A lot more than I had in the beginning.

Bonnie: Honey.

Nancy: Look, bonnie, I can tell by the look on your face that you feel that I’m, like, wimpy and totally pathetic. I mean, I’m sure that you had a lot more respect for me when I wanted to just kill the guy.

Bonnie: No, no. Stop. Stop. Honey, I didn’t have more respect for you back then. Honestly, I’m just trying to protect you from running right into the eye of that storm. Attending your ex-hus– and not ex for a very long time–wedding to someone you think is scum.

Nancy: I know craig doesn’t think that way about leo. So I have to try to respect that–

Bonnie: Have to? In my opinion, you don’t have to do anything but what you’re doing right now, which is trying to get through this and move on with your life.

[Sighs] But looking in your eyes, I can tell that no matter how many times I tell you to tell him no or tell you not to go to the wedding–just falling on deaf ears. And I get it.

Nancy: You really do?

Bonnie: Mm-hmm. Honey, you loved that man for most of your life and you wanna be there for him. All I’m saying is just, I don’t know, think about it for a couple of days.

Nancy: I can’T. Craig texted me and said that the wedding has been moved up to tonight.

Bonnie: Tonight? Well, why didn’t you tell me that?

Nancy: I just did. And bonnie…I wanna go.

Bonnie: Then I respect your decision.

Nancy: I, um, just hope that everybody doesn’t just stare at me and go, “oh, there’s the woman whose husband left her for a man,” while I’m sitting there all alone.

Bonnie: So don’t go alone.

Nancy: I have no choice. The wedding is tonight.

Bonnie: Sure you do. You just get yourself a hot date to take you.

Nancy: Bonnie, I just told you the wedding is tonight. Where am I gonna find a date on such short notice?

Bonnie: Easy, killer. We’ll find you a date right here.

Leo: I have never been so insulted in my entire life. Craig and I aren’t even married yet and you’re talking divorce?

Chloe: That’s the whole point of a prenup, leo, to figure it out ahead of time. And what better way to prove that you’re marrying my father for love and not money?

Leo: What better way than by signing a stupid document? With love and devotion, that is a better way. With something that is private and sacred. And also special and exciting and happens at least twice a day and sometimes more.

Craig: Leo.

Chloe: Okay, so you won’t sign it, will you? Surprise. Dad, what else do you need to prove that this guy’s a gold digger?

Craig: Chloe, stop it. Right now.

Leo: See? He is as appalled as I am. So you can take the stupid prenup and you know what you can do with it?

Craig: Hold it. Just… I think you should sign it.

Gwen: Why would you say that ava’s desperate? Did she say something?

Gabi: What do you mean? Like what?

Gwen: You’re not gonna rat me out, are you?

Ava: You know, despite committing my fair share of crimes, I’ve managed to stay out of prison for most of my life. I’m not getting locked up for this.

Gwen: What are you saying?

Ava: Well, what I’m saying is if I do get arrested, the only way out may be to give them a name. So I’m gonna ask you one simple question. Why shouldn’t I sacrifice you to save myself?

Gabi: Gwen? Something wrong?

Ava: Make the offer to trask. You hook her, and then I’ll give you the name and the crimes.

Abigail: You know, I don’t really think you’re in a position to be calling the shots here, ava.

Ava: I’m just asking you to work with me here. It’s not like you walk away empty-handed.

Abigail: But you won’t tell me who this mystery person is.

Ava: If I give away everything I know up front, then you can take all of that to trask and cut me out. And then I got nothing to bargain with, and there’s no reason for her to give me immunity.

Abigail: Well, then I guess we’re at a standoff.

Nicole: [Sighs] How rafe and I got together is a really long story.

Clyde: Well, look who’s back. And all the way from africa, huh? Your daddy told me you were living there now.

Eric: Clyde weston. Are you working here?

Clyde: I sure am. Your old man gave me a job. He didn’t tell you that?

Eric: No, he did not.

Nicole: Uh… weren’t you in prison?

Clyde: I got paroled.

Nicole: I’m sorry, why would roman hire you after you kidnapped his great-grandson?

Clyde: Because he knows I did my time, paid for my crimes, and that I’m determined to be a better man from this point on.

Nicole: [Scoffs]

Clyde: You believe in redemption, don’t you, padre?

Leo: Craig, I am beyond offended that you need me to sign some legal document to prove that I love you.

Craig: I don’t need you to sign it, but obviously my daughter does.

Leo: Because she doesn’t trust me, which is very hurtful.

Craig: I know. Leo, I am so sick of all of the people that I know and care about constantly coming after me with suspicions and warnings about you, but if– if your signing this puts a stop to all that, then… I think you should do it. Please? For me.

Ava: I make it a practice never to give away something for nothing.

Abigail: Right. Well, thank you. Now have fun in jail. Don’t pass go. Don’t collect $200 or anything. Boy, this was really a waste of time coming down here, except maybe– maybe I got a story for “the spectator.” “Ex-mafia princess finally brought down by ex-lover’s kid sister.” Meh.

Ava: The person who attacked you, it was your sister… gwen.

Gabi: Gwen? Hey, you look–are you okay?

Gwen: Um, I just realized, I have a million things to do, so I’m just–I’m gonna run.

Gabi: Weren’t you gonna book this place for afterwards?

Gwen: You’re right. That is a job for my matron of honor, so I’ll just have abigail do it, so bye.

Nancy: How’s this: “Recently divorced, fun-loving woman. Donates her time to charitable causes.” What’s wrong with that?

Bonnie: They’re all too bland. It’s a jungle out there. You gotta spice it up. How about this: “Back on the market. Hot to trot and ready for action.”

Nancy: Ready for action?

Bonnie: You asked for my help–let me help you. I know about this stuff. Trust me.

Nancy: Oh. Is this how you met justin? On a dating app?

Bonnie: God, no. But I’ve helped plenty of my friends do this, so here we go. Now, the important thing is to get a really good picture, so– okay, stand up. Let’s go. Let’s go. Over here. Leo: Give me a second, ms. Bossypants. I’d like to know what I’m signing.

Chloe: I told you, it’s pretty standard.

Leo: “All premarital and postmarital property is separate including any residence in which the spouses cohabit. In the event of a divorce, the residence goes to dr. Wesley. All bank accounts, including joint accounts, revert to single accounts for dr. Wesley.” Blah, blah, blah. “No alimony or cash settlement in the event of a divorce.”

Chloe: Yeah, none of that should matter if you’re marrying my father for love, right? Dad, I’m sorry I’m doing this to you on your wedding day, but you have to know before you get married.

[Tense music]

Leo: There, satisfied? My asthma felt anything but normal.

Chloe: You signed it.

Leo: This amazing hunk of man is the love of my life. So there’s no reason not to sign some silly piece of paper. We are going to be husband and husband from now until eternity, prenup be damned.

Craig: Oh, yeah. Guess I should make it official then.

Leo: [Exhales] I know you have had your issues with me and my past. But I hope that this will finally convince you that my love for your father is real, profound, and fills me with joy. Maybe you’ll even give us your blessing, because it’s the only way he’s gonna be happy, and that’s all I want is your father’s happiness.

Chloe: Okay, I guess we want the same thing then. Leo stepped up, so I will too. If he makes you happy, then I’m happy, and that’s all that matters. You have my blessing. I will take this to justin to file, and I guess I will see you two at the wedding later.

Abigail: So I was right. It was gwen who knocked me out that day.

Abigail: Tell me. What else did she do? Did it have something to do with my kidnapping? Was it something else? Are there other victims?

Ava: I will tell you everything that you wanna know in excruciating detail. But trask needs to hear it first and only after I get my immunity. Abigail. This is your chance. You want your sister to pay for her sins? Get me the deal and I will sing like a canary.

Abigail: I’ll be back.

Eric: I do believe in redemption.

Clyde: Yeah, so does your old man, which is why he hired me. I’m paying it back by trying to do a good job and earn an honest living.

Nicole: Do you even know what that means?

Clyde: That’s a good question. I mean, I get why some people won’t give me another chance, given some of the things I’ve done.

Nicole: Like trying to blow up an entire town?

Clyde: But there ain’t no use in looking at the past, is there? I mean, I’m all about looking forward, doing everything I can to be a better man. But hey, I didn’t mean to interrupt you two. I’ll just get on with my break. Enjoy yourselves. Good to see you again.

Nicole: [Scoffs] A better man? After everything he’s done and all the people he’s hurt, does he really expect anyone to believe that he’s changed or is capable of it? I mean– oh. You must think I’m a hypocrite. After all the things I’ve done and the people I’ve hurt.

Eric: No. But like clyde said, you know, it’s about… it’s about working harder. Moving forward. So you, uh… you were gonna tell me about you and rafe.

Nicole: [Sighs] Yeah. Plus, I can tell you everything. You know the worst about me.

Eric: And I still care about you, nicole. You know that, right?

Nicole: And I’m grateful. I am, eric.

Nicole: Okay. Well, rafe and I have been friends for a long time, like you said. And he was there for me when you and I split. And then in october… we slept together.

[Inhales sharply] Only he was living with someone else, and that someone was ava vitali. And she found out and she tried to ruin rafe’s life. She framed him for a crime he didn’t commit, and then just yesterday, gabi found proof that ava actually set him up, and she’s been arrested.

Eric: So if ava’s no longer a threat to rafe or to you… meaning that there’s nothing to stop you from living happily ever after. Right? It’s my 5:52 woke-up-like-this migraine medicine.

Nicole: Happily ever after? Yeah, I guess so.

Eric: [Chuckles] You guess so?

Nicole: I mean, I’m just a little skeptical of that particular phrase for obvious reasons.

Eric: Yeah. Me too. Meaning–why don’t I just skip the “ever after” part and just ask… you’re happy, aren’t you?

Nicole: Yes. I’m happy.

Eric: I’m glad. Like I said, that’s all I want for you.

Nicole: I should get to work.

Chad: So I assume, since you’re still in salem, you took victor took up on his offer and you’re the new ceo of titan.

Sonny: Actually, I haven’t talked to will about it yet.

Chad: Are you afraid to tell him?

Sonny: No. No. Our babysitter’s at this vortex retreat in sedona, so will’s going at it solo with ari, and he’s got deadlines, so– no, I just don’t want to drop it all on him over a zoom call.

Chad: Well, then, why don’t you go home and tell him?

Sonny: Because there’s something I have to take care of here first.

Chad: What?

Sonny: Leo.

Chad: Leo? Sonny, come on. Have we not spent enough time and energy on– on leo?

Sonny: No, not enough. Not until leo stark’s life is as screwed up as he made mine. Only then will it be enough.

Gwen: Oh, my god, matty, that’s wonderful. You’re the best.

Leo: How true, how true. So I will see you soon, but I must fly. I have a million things to do, and god knows I knows at least two hours power napping before tonight.

Gwen: For goodness sake, we’re getting married. We’re not going clubbing.

Leo: The two are not mutually exclusive. Cheers, my love.

Gwen: Cheerio.

[Phone beeps]

Xander: What was all that about?

Gwen: [Sighs] That was my dear friend, matty. Guess what. He’s rented out the horton town square for the wedding.

Xander: No way.

Gwen: Yeah.

Xander: No, you must have to book that months in advance.

Gwen: Apparently there was some sort of a cancellation. I don’t know. Whatever. I mean, matty’s somewhat of a magician when it comes to event planning.

Xander: Can’t wait to meet this guy.

Gwen: Oh, you are absolutely going to love him. And I guess it means that you seeing me on our wedding day hasn’t brought us any bad luck.

Xander: Guess not.

Gwen: So, tonight, we will get married in the horton holy of holies, and we’ll start living the rest of our lives happily ever after.

[Chuckles]

Leo: Well, well, well. If it isn’t salem’s own marquise de merteuil.

Abigail: What are you talking about?

Leo: I’m talking about a conniving, back-stabbing little… word I refuse to use.

Abigail: I gotta go.

Leo: Not until you and i have a little tete-a-tete. Since I will be making my home here in salem, and as you and I will be co-salemites, I think we need to set some ground rules, and now is as good a time as any.

Jake: Okay. Here I am, awake.

[Sighs] And now I will try to get up.

[Groans] Nothing to fear but fear itself, right? All right.

[Grunts]

[Exhales heavily] The pain is gone.

[Groans] And the pain is back. Ava? Ava, where the hell are you?

[Groans] I need your help. Ava? Where the hell did she go?

[Alarm ringing]

[Phone beeps]

Nicole: Guess we have to get up and work.

Rafe: We could sleep for, like, five more minutes.

Nicole: Or, alternatively, we could, um…

Rafe: Oh, good morning.

Both: [Chuckle]

[Door crashes open]

Both: [Gasp]

Nicole: Oh. [Gasps] Ava, what are you doing in our bedroom?

Ava: Formerly known as our bedroom. You didn’t think that you were gonna get rid of me that easily and I was just gonna let this go, did you? I mean, my best friend is screwing my boyfriend behind my back, and somehow it’s my fault.

Nicole: Ava, what do you want with us?

Ava: Oh, I think you know. You know, my first attempt at revenge– it was too complicated. It was just too… too cerebral. And then I woke up this morning with the blinding realization that I just need to get back to my roots, you know? Keep things simple.

Nicole: No. Rafe…

Ava: And now you die.

[Dramatic music]

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Chad: Sonny, I love you like a brother. Your enemy is my enemy. But you cannot, cannot ask me to go after leo again.

Sonny: You won’t have to, okay? Because this time, we are taking a different approach.

Chad: You’re saying “we.” I heard you say “we.”

Sonny: I know you still want to be a part of this.

Chad: No, sonny, I don’t still want to be a part of this.

Sonny: Unfortunately, we don’t have that much time, okay? Nancy signed the divorce papers, so legally, craig is free, and he and leo are planning on getting married as soon as possible.

Chad: Check and mate.

Sonny: You know what the sad part is? Chloe’s seemingly decided there’s nothing else she can do about it.

Chad: Maybe because there’s nothing she or anyone else can do about it.

Sonny: But I’m not so sure about that. And neither is brady. See, he came to me last night with some very interesting information, information that I think could spell the end of the leo stark reign of terror.

Abigail: Why do we need ground rules, hmm? I say we just both stay as far away from each other as possible, and that suits me fine.

Leo: You know, it was right over there where you did your insipid little monologue about how your husband had the hots for me. Trust me, katharine cornell you are not, but you are conniving, manipulative, spiteful. So don’t play lady of the manor with me.

Abigail: Don’t you think you calling me manipulative and conniving is sort of a pot/kettle moment? Don’t you remember blackmailing sonny into marrying you?

Leo: See, that is what I am talking about. I am tired of the lot of you flinging my past in my face. It’s not like you all have lived blameless lives.

Abigail: I never said that I did!

Leo: Yeah, when I met your husband, you two were separated, you were living in boston. How would you have felt if someone took advantage of that situation and insinuated themselves into his bed?

Abigail: You did try to take advantage of that situation, only you didn’t insinuate anything. You actually crawled into his bed while he was asleep and then tried to take advantage of him.

Leo: What I tried to do does not matter because it didn’t work and he only has eyes for you, which is how I feel about craig and how he feels about me.

Abigail: Okay. So that’s your story, and you’re sticking to it?

Leo: It’s not a story, it’s a beautiful reality. And our joyous double wedding is going to be the happiest day of his previously drab, humdrum life.

Abigail: Double wedding?

Leo: Mm-hmm, I’m sharing my special day with my bff.

Abigail: You actually have a friend?

Leo: Yes, you snide bitch. Her name is gwen, and she’s fabulous.

Abigail: Her name is gwen?

Leo: Mm-hmm. Very welsh, kind of mystic. Though her last name doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue.

Abigail: Oh, it doesn’t happen to be “rizczech,” does it?

Leo: Yes. My god, I hope she takes his name.

Abigail: Okay. So you and gwen are bffs. You know, if you think about it, makes a sickening sort of sense.

Xander: Gwen, we can’t possibly get married today, can we? I mean, what about the cake, among many other things?

Gwen: Well, I already told you, I ordered one from sweet bits, and i told them no bloody filling.

Xander: Thought you liked filling.

Gwen: I meant–never mind.

Xander: What about the wedding invitations, flowers, all that kind of stuff?

Gwen: Well, matty’s already taken care of all of the arrangements. And I suppose the bright side of not really having friends is you don’t really have any guests to notify, so–

Xander: What about my tux?

Gwen: We’ll rent one.

Xander: Your dress?

Gwen: I’m on it.

Xander: What about your dad? I mean, he’s my best man, and I told him the wedding’s next week.

Gwen: I already spoke to him last night after you did, and he’s already booked a flight this morning. He’s on the plane as we speak.

Xander: Hmm. Well, I guess everything is ready.

Gwen: Except for maybe the groom. Xander, you’ve come up with about 16 different reasons not to get married. Are you getting cold feet, darling?

Rafe: Put the gun down, ava.

Ava: Oh, make me.

Nicole: Rafe!

[Gunshot]

[Gasping]

Rafe: What is it, honey?

Nicole: I, uh–it was, um– it was ava. She came in here with a gun, and she wanted to kill me.

Rafe: No, no. Hey, you just had a nightmare. It’s okay. Don’t worry, okay? Nobody is going to come barging in here, okay?

Nicole: Okay.

Rafe: Don’t worry.

Nicole: [Gasps]

Gabi: Oh, for god’s sake, don’t shoot! It’s my 3:10, no-exit-in-sight,

Rafe: What the hell are you doing?

Gabi: Your job for you. You’re so lucky that you have me an assistant. Nicole, I am so sorry for barging in like this. Okay, come on.

[Sighs]

Nicole: What are you doing, a deposition?

Gabi: Shh. You’re gonna want to hear this.

Ava: Once you say rafe hernandez planted this evidence on you, there is no way he can come back from this. He’s going down.

Gabi: Yeah.

Rafe: Oh, my god.

Gabi: Hard evidence that ava set you up. Rafael, what are you waiting for? Arrest her!

Jake: Where the hell you been?

Ava: I went to the store. You got a refrigerator full of beer and condiments, and you got, I don’t know, two tea bags in the cupboard.

Jake: I’m a bachelor. What can I say? You know, when I woke up and saw that you weren’t here, I was worried you were up to no good.

Ava: Oh, yeah? What did you think I was gonna do? Think I was up to killing– killing rafe and nicole? Eh. Don’t think it didn’t cross my mind. But, instead, I’ve decided to take my rage out on some eggs and make a nice frittata.

Jake: Hmm, actually sounds pretty good.

Ava: So you got a frittata pan?

Jake: I’ve got a microwave.

Ava: You got any pans at all?

Jake: I can probably dig one up for you, but I’m gonna need something from you first.

Ava: What’s that?

Jake: I need help up. I can’t move.

Ava: [Sighs] Come on.

Jake: [Groans] Easy. Yeah.

Sonny: Okay, so listen to this. Chloe and brady overheard leo on the phone, gloating about his victory. Sounded like he was talking to some, like, an old crony.

Chad: Okay.

Sonny: And the person that he was talking to was named, wait for it…

[Beats a drumroll] Jackie.

Chad: Jackie cox?

Sonny: Yes! Leo’s source who was supposed to lead will to the emerald.

Chad: The source that mysteriously went missing when we tried to track it down?

Sonny: Exactly! Now I’m starting to think she was staying out of things on purpose.

Chad: Do you think that she and leo were working all along on a plan to–to switch out the emerald?

Sonny: I’m not sure, but they were attached at the hip when they came to the apartment! They mentioned the reward money together, so maybe, if they were working together then, maybe they’re still working together now!

Chad: Working on what?

Sonny: I don’t know! I don’t know! But if leo’s trying to bilk craig out of his money, if this all some sort of scam, which of course it is, I would be willing to bet a metallic opera glove that jackie cox is in on it. And I also think she could be the key to getting craig to see the light.

Leo: So how do you know gwen?

Abigail: She is my half-sister.

Leo: Really? I find that hard to believe. Gwen’s fun.

Abigail: Oh, yeah, she’s a barrel of laughs. You know, when you get a second, ask her the very hilarious story of how she systematically tried to destroy my life. It’s a knee-slapper.

Leo: Well, knowing you as I do, I’m sure she had a very good reason.

Abigail: How do you know her?

Leo: Intimately, but not carnally. I charted our horoscopes once, and it was fated that we would meet and fall instantly, madly, deeply, and platonically in love.

Abigail: Okay. Allow me to be more concrete. Where did you meet her?

Leo: In philadelphia. My god, it was like running into cher at a tractor pull. There was me, her, amongst hordes and hordes of philly fans. I knew I loved her before I even saw her. From across the room, I heard that glorious accent say in this clarion voice, “you can call that a cheese steak, but that yellow mucus is not cheese and that piece of rubber is not steak.” We saved each other from drowning in a proletariat sea of mediocrity.

Abigail: Pity.

Leo: You know, I can read people, and I sense that you and gwen are not close.

Abigail: Boy, you’re uncanny.

Leo: Well, that’s fine by me. Means you won’t be coming to our weddings, won’t be raining on anyone’s parades.

Abigail: Oh, au contraire, cookie, I will be there with bells on. I’m the matron of honor.

[Tense music]

Xander: I’m not having second thoughts about marrying you. I am having second thoughts about getting married on the spur of the moment in an event planned by someone else in a double wedding with strangers.

Gwen: Matty’s not a stranger. He’s my friend, with a very rich fiancé. And since you and I can’t afford a yucky rubber chicken buffet dinner on our own–

Xander: I am sorry about that, I am. I do want you to have the wedding of your dreams, which you absolutely deserve.

Gwen: Xander, could we just talk about the elephant in the room here, please? Can you just tell me, is this about the wedding, or is this about sarah?

Xander: [Sighs] No. This is not about sarah. Maggie’s taking care of her now. She’s getting the best treatment in the world. And now it’s time for us to have our life. Our life together.

[Romantic music swells]

Jake: [Sniffs] That–that was delicious.

Ava: Thanks. Okay, and you look like you’re trying to perform a levitation trick.

Jake: I kind of am.

[Groans]

Ava: Hey, okay, all right, you know what? Enough, enough. Tonight, I am in the air mattress. You’re taking the bed. I feel horrible that I did not insist on it last night.

Jake: And, what, have you wake up tomorrow morning feeling the way I feel right now? No way.

Ava: Well, see, that’s not going to be a problem. Because I’ve been taking yoga for years. I can touch my nose to my toes.

Jake: I bet that comes in handy.

Ava: Hmm, you know, maybe we should get you into a yoga class.

Jake: [Scoffs] Me, yoga? No freaking way.

Ava: What? You afraid of a little downward dog?

Jake: Oh, now that sounds a little–

Ava: Oh, come on, no, no, no. You get your little mind out of the gutter, no.

Both: [Laugh]

Jake: What I need is to get my ass out of this chair. Huh?

Ava: Okay. Looks like this is a case for emergency measures. All right, come on.

Jake: Go easy on me.

Ava: One, two…

Chad: So if– if jackie cox has information that can be used against leo, how do you propose we get it?

Sonny: It’s funny you ask. So I asked will for some professional advice, and he said, get this–

Chad: “Start with google.”

Sonny: Wait, how’d you know?

Chad: I’m also married to a superstar reporter, remember?

Sonny: Right. Okay, so let’s see. Um… jackie…

Chad: It says jackee. Start over.

Sonny: Right. Right. Okay, here we go. Uh, jackie cox. Oh, see, she has her own website. Um, it says here she’s based in new york. It should be easy to track her down.

Chad: She does stand out in a crowd, doesn’t she?

Sonny: And I could ask my uncle vic for his jet. I mean, now that he wants something from me, he’d be willing to give me the moon. We could be in and out of there in, like, a couple hours.

Chad: There you go with the whole “we” thing again.

Sonny: I need you to come with me, chad. I need my wingman.

Abigail: So you and craig are having a double wedding with gwen and xander.

Leo: I think it’s going to be mind-blowing.

Abigail: Has anyone ever told you how most salem weddings end up?

Gwen: Hi!

Leo: Hi.

Gwen: You know matty?

Abigail: Uh, I know him, and he was just telling me all about your very exciting double wedding.

Gwen: I know, I’m sorry. I was gonna phone you. Did he tell you that it’s tonight?

Abigail: [Laughs shortly] Uh, he did not, no.

Gwen: Yeah. Well, it is. I hope you’re free.

Abigail: I am. However, there happens to be one new little wrinkle. Leo here hates me.

Leo: Pas vrai! There is nobody I’d rather have there to witness my connubial bliss than you. Hey, where’s that handsome husband-to-be?

Abigail: Oh, he’s right behind you.

Xander: Gwen, I called, and your dad’s flight is right on time. What’s this sneaky little bastard doing back here?

Leo: [Gasps] You didn’t tell him?

Xander: Tell me what? Wait, what’s going on here?

Gwen: I’m not quite sure. Xander, this–this is my friend, my really good friend, matty cooper.

Xander: This isn’t matty cooper! This is leo stark!

Leo: One and the same. I have to say, it’s wonderful to see you again, looking fantastic as ever.

[Uncertain music]

Still struggling with ibs-c, mike knew he needed a plan.

Rafe: Okay, well, thanks, I’ll keep you posted.

[Phone beeps] Huh. Well, trask is on board with filing charges. Once the warrant goes through, we bring ava in.

Nicole: Did she ask any questions about the tape?

Rafe: Oh, yeah, she asked plenty of questions, and I pleaded ignorance.

Nicole: I’m surprised she actually wanted to do this. I mean, she’s the one who prosecuted that trumped-up case against you. She’s gonna look like an idiot when it comes out that ava played her.

Rafe: All the more reason that she wants to take ava down.

Nicole: Yeah.

Rafe: Hey. You want to take ava down, too, don’t you?

Nicole: Of course I do. I’m just still worried about it. You said that tape might not be admissible in court, and if we go after her and she wiggles out of it, she might be even more rabid than she already is.

Rafe: Doesn’t matter. It doesn’t ma–listen. Ava, when she’s still out there, she’s gonna keep making threats. She’s gonna keep giving you nightmares. That is no way for us to go through our lives now, is it? No. Now, listen to me. I am not gonna let her ruin what we have waited so long to find. Okay?

Nicole: Okay.

Both: [Chuckle]

Jake: [Groaning] Oh yeah, that’s the spot, that’s– do it harder. Harder! Give it to me. Baba booey, harder. Oh, yes.

Gabi: Hello? Anyone home? So, ava, I see you’re earning your keep.

[Awkward jazz music]

Chad: So you want me to drop everything, go to new york with you so we can maybe track someone down who maybe has information that–that– that maybe will bring down leo?

Sonny: I know it sounds crazy, but it would just take a couple hours.

Chad: No, look. Sonny, I–I know that this is personal to you, but I thought that we agreed that it wasn’t healthy to keep obsessing about leo like this.

Sonny: We didn’t agree, and I’m not obsessing!

Chad: No? You just said that chloe, craig’s daughter, has accepted the fact that craig and leo are getting married. And if craig wants to screw up his life, that’s his business.

Sonny: You’re wrong. Okay? It’s all of our business.

Gwen: You two know each other?

Xander: Could say that.

Leo: You’re doing the nasty with xander cook? I hate you.

Gwen: Why?

Leo: Okay, I don’t hate you. I’m just envious. I used to have the biggest crush on him. You still haunt the occasional dream, but now I only have eyes for craig.

Gwen: Oh, come on, you little sneak, you know you don’t have a chance with xander. He doesn’t play for your team, darling.

Leo: He almost did.

Gwen: What are you saying?

Leo: Oh, don’t worry, nothing happened.

Xander: If you’re quite done, you know, strolling down memory lane, you want us to have a double wedding with him?

Leo: Oh, and craig. There will be four of us.

Xander: Yeah, I don’t think so.

Abigail: I wish I had some popcorn.

Gwen: What?

Xander: You heard him. He was just, you know, coming on to me.

Leo: Even his vocabulary’s butch.

Gwen: Okay, look, so leo fancied you, what, years and years ago? He’s moved on; so have you. It is really that big of a deal?

Xander: Yes, gwen, it is a big deal. I’m not doing this.

Gabi: So much for just giving ava a place to stay.

Jake: Not that it’s any of your damn business, but I threw my back out.

Gabi: Doing what?

Jake: Sleeping.

Gabi: Oh, so that’s what you’re calling it now.

Jake: You know what, gabi? You’re lucky I’m telling you the truth, because if my back wasn’t killing me right now, I would take your interfering ass and throw it out on the curb, where it belongs. Who the hell do you think you are, barging into my place like this?

Gabi: Someone looking after your best interest. That woman there is poison.

Jake: My best interest, really? What, did you have my “best interest” in mind when you screwed me to the wall in dimera? You know what? Ava, call the cops. Tell them somebody broke into my apartment.

Gabi: The door was unlocked, okay? Actually, I’m just here as a courtesy call.

Ava: Oh, so this is ’cause you’re always so courteous and all, right?

Gabi: I just wanted to let you know that I’m not gonna interfere and cause any more trouble for the two of you.

Ava: So this is you not causing trouble?

Gabi: You’re right. You’re right! I overreacted when I saw you straddling him and him begging, but jake, listen, when I first found out that ava moved in here, I really did think that she was just doing it get under my skin, but I’ve decided to not let my hatred of her get the better of me.

Ava: Until you actually showed up here?

Gabi: No, no, I actually believe the explanation.

Jake: That’s new.

Gabi: Even if I didn’t, I wouldn’t intervene because you have your lives to live, and I’ve got mine.

Jake: What’s the catch?

Gabi: What do you mean? What–

Jake: Well, gabi, this is very unlike you, right? Playing it cool and all. It makes me think it’s a trick. We won’t see that the other shoe is about to drop.

Gabi: What other shoe would that possibly be?

[Pounding at door]

Rafe: Open up. Police.

[Pounding continues]

Jake: [Groans]

Sonny: You know what? You’re right. This isn’t your problem. You don’t really care about leo or this whole craig wesley fiasco. I’m sorry I bothered you.

Chad: Sonny. I don’t care about leo… but you’re my best friend. I care about you. So let’s go find ourselves a drag queen.

Sonny: [Laughs] Thank you. Look, I know it seems like I’m over the top about all this. I know, I know, but… if I know leo, and god help me, I know leo, he is champing at the bit to get craig’s ring on his finger, okay? And once that happens, it’s gonna be hell of a lot harder to get rid of him.

Gwen: Xander, are you saying that you’re not going through with the wedding?

Xander: No, I’m– I’m saying I’m not going to stand up at an altar with, or a bloody yoga stand, with this, this– god, I have so many pejoratives running through my head, I can’t even pick one.

Leo: Ooh, pejoratives. Been snuggling up to your thesaurus, have you?

Xander: Look, I don’t get it. Why are you so dead set on doing this today?

Gwen: God, you do have cold feet.

Xander: No, I don’T.

Abigail: You know, this looks like it’s gonna take a while, so why don’t you give me a call, let me know if the wedding’s on or off? I’m really fine either way.

Gwen: I’m sorry, look, I didn’t know that you had a beef with him.

Leo: Hmm. Interesting choice of words.

Xander: Just watch it, okay?

Leo: No, I’m not gonna watch it. Can we have a very brief reality check here? You were the one who led me on. You took advantage of my interest in getting to know you better to find out what leverage sonny had, which you then used toward your own nefarious ends. He drugged me, led me to believe we slept together, when in reality, he was down the hall, getting the colored lights going with lady sarah horton. You used me. I’m the one who shouldn’t be able to abide having you at my wedding. But having found my own true love, I have a newfound ability to forgive, forget, transcend.

Gwen: Look, xander, if leo can put what happened in the past in the past, I mean, can’t you too, for me?

Gabi: Oh, hi, rafe.

Rafe: Oh, fancy meeting you here.

Jake: What the hell’s going on here?

Ava: I think the other shoe is dropping.

Rafe: Yeah, you know, I could’ve sent an officer to do this for me, but I wanted to do it myself. Ava vitali. Yeah. You’re under arrest.

Ava: Oh yeah? For what? Wearing a mask in public?

Rafe: No, for the framing of– well, me actually.

[Dramatic music]

Abigail: Sonny, what’s up?

Sonny: Hey, I just came to ask chad for a little favor, you know?

Chad: He wants me to go to new york with him to see if we can get jackie cox to spill what she knows about leo.

Abigail: Really?

Chad: Yeah. You want to come with? It’ll only take a couple hours. Maybe you get a good story out of it.

Abigail: Oh, I don’t think I can do a story about leo stark, as I am now personally involved. And I got a lot to do before tonight, so–

Chad: Why, what’s tonight?

Abigail: Gwen and xander are getting married, and I am now the matron of honor, and sonny, brace yourself.

Sonny: Me? Why?

Abigail: It’s a double wedding between gwen and xander and leo and craig.

Sonny: Tonight?

Abigail: I know, it’s hard to believe, but leo and gwen are apparently bffs. Birds of a feather.

[Sighs]

Gwen: Xander, look. After all this time we’ve waited, I just want to be your wife.

Xander: Right, but is this really your idea of a dream wedding?

[Soft music]

Gwen: Yes. Yes, it is. Xander, as you know, I–I don’t really have many friends. And leo is the only person besides you who really knows me and actually still likes me.

Leo: Ugh, I could cry.

Abigail: Xander looked like he’d been punched in the gut.

Sonny: Wait, I’m–I’m sorry, if leo and gwen are best friends, maybe she knows what he’s up to.

Abigail: I don’t know. She didn’t even know he was in town until yesterday. So, sorry, I wish I could go with you to new york, but I promised I’d stand up for her, and I think it’ll mean a lot to my dad.

Sonny: It’s tonight? Clock’s really ticking.

Abigail: I don’t know. Like I said, I was there when xander found out he was gonna be sharing his wedding day with leo, and he didn’t look happy about it. So I can’t say for sure that he’s gonna go along with it.

Sonny: Here’s hoping.

Jake: [Grunts] You just gonna stand there and gloat?

Gabi: Admit it. You tried to make me jealous by having ava move in here.

Jake: I was helping out a friend.

Gabi: Your old mob boss? She’s friends to no one.

Gabi: Well, it looks like you got the whole bed to yourself tonight. Better watch that back of yours.

Jake: You’re gonna want to watch yours too.

Gabi: What is that supposed to mean?

Jake: When ava beats these charges, my “old mob boss” is gonna be pretty upset with you.

Abigail: Call me a pessimist, but I don’t think either one of those marriages is gonna last.

Sonny: I hope so. Come on.

Gwen: Right, well, we’d best get a move on, ’cause dad’s flight is landing soon. Actually, could you pick him up? ‘Cause I have a million things that I have to do.

Xander: Of course. Yeah, I’ll be right back. Hey, I’ll see you at the altar, “matty.”

Leo: It’s leo. Leo stark. My god, you are a lucky woman.

Gwen: I know. Don’t I know it? Right, well, I do have to go, because I really do have a million things to do, so… abinto, my darling.

Leo: Je t’adore.

Messenger: I just heard you say you’re leo stark?

Leo: That’s right.

Messenger: I was just on my way to the inn to deliver this.

Leo: What the hell is this?

Messenger: No idea.

[Tense music]

Leo: “In the matter of…” oh, my god. It can’t be. It is. It’s A… prenup.

Rafe: We do have ironclad evidence against you. So your man flipped, said you strong-armed him, and we got it all on tape.

Ava: I want my phone call.

Rafe: Fine.

Ava: Privacy, please.

Rafe: No problem. Less time I spend with you, the better.

[Phone rings]

[Uneasy music]

Gabi: To me. Nobody, not the cops, not five mob families have been able to do what I did without breaking a sweat. To taking down that mafia princess once and for all.

[Phone rings]

Abigail: Unknown number? Hello? Who is this?

Ava: It’s ava vitali.

Abigail: Ava? What do you want?

Ava: I have some information I think you might find quite interesting.

Nicole: Yeah, I’m gonna need those sales reports by this afternoon. Okay, thanks, andy. You’re a doll. Okay, bye. Excuse me, can I get a double espresso?

Nicole: Taking advantage of happy hour, I see.

Jake: Hey, nicole. Wanna join me?

Nicole: No, I don’T. I’m meeting rafe here. Actually he’ll be here in a few minutes.

Jake: Very well. Give my best to your new boyfriend.

Nicole: Don’t give my best to your new roommate.

Gabi: Rafe, you are not going to be sorry that your lawyer got me a copy of that case file.

Rafe: Did you get a lead?

Gabi: Better, I managed to track down the guy–one of the guys–who lied about you on the stand, and I’m gonna get the truth out of him.

Rafe: Where are you?

Gabi: Outside his apartment.

Rafe: Now, you listen, I do not like this, okay? You are alone. This is not safe.

Gabi: Don’t worry, big brother, I’ll be careful.

Rafe: Yeah, you better be. Okay, you do not want ava finding out what you are up to. Like I said, she’s dangerous. She’s unpredictable. You never know when she might pop up.

[Tense music]

Nancy: Goodbye, craig, and good luck. If everything I’ve heard about leo stark is true, you’re gonna need it.

Craig: Nancy, wait.

[Solemn music]

Nancy: Yes?

Craig: Would you consider staying and having one last drink with me for old time’s sake? Never mind, I–I shouldn’t have asked you. I don’t even know why you’d want to after everything that’s happened.

[Sighs]

Nancy: What the hell?

Gwen: Oh, my god, matty… matty cakes! I mean, I–I can’t believe this. I haven’t seen you since philly.

Leo: Ah, gwenny mouse, i have thought about you constantly since we lost touch. I never imagined I’d run into you in salem.

Gwen: Yeah, I–I know. I moved here a few years ago. How long have you been here?

Leo: Not long, but I’m planning on sticking around this time, and I go by leo now, leo stark.

Gwen: Oh, well, mr. Stark, i think you and I have a bloody lot to catch up on.

Leo: Why don’t we grab a drink or ten, and I will tell you all about it?

Gwen: [Laughs] Okay.

Xander: So how’s boston treating you and the missus?

Jack: I can’t complain. Paper’s going great. Jennifer and I are very happy.

Xander: Good, good.

Jack: So to what do I owe this call?

Xander: Well, jack, I, uh, have some news. I’m finally ready to marry your daughter. So, once again, I find myself in need of a best mate.

Jack: Well, I’m–I’m very happy for you, for you and for gwen.

Xander: But?

Jack: What about sarah?

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Craig: Peach schnapps for my lady.

Nancy: You remembered?

Craig: Come on, nancy, how can I forget the first drink we shared? After I swiped the bottle from your parents’ house.

Nancy: You hooligan.

[Both chuckle] Craig, do you remember the car you borrowed?

[Gasps] Oh, my god.

Craig: That was a piece of junk. But it did get us down to that little lake. Built a fire under the stars.

Nancy: [Exhales] And we were gonna go skinny-dipping.

Craig: [Chuckles] Were, until we started drinking. And… I remember leaning in to kiss you.

Nancy: Our first kiss. I–I was surprised. Actually, I was in heaven.

Craig: [Laughs]

Nancy: But then everything started spinning around, and–

Craig: Yeah, and then you vomited all over the place.

[Both laugh]

Nancy: Ah, real buzzkill, huh? Maybe it was just a sign of– of things to come.

Rafe: I gotta go.

Ava: Rafe. What an unpleasant surprise. Oh, did I hurt your feelings?

Rafe: I’d be careful if i were you.

Ava: Oh, see, now that was much better.

Rafe: Yeah. Accessory to a kidnapping, subordination of perjury, incrimination on false evidence.

Ava: Are those words supposed to mean something?

Rafe: Well, they should mean something to you, yeah, ’cause those are the crimes that you’re going down for.

Ava: [Chuckles] Yes, I think you tried that once before, and you failed miserably.

Rafe: I’m not done, not by a long shot. So enjoy your freedom… while it lasts.

Ava: Hey, you know what? Before you go, tell me this one thing: Um, how is my good friend nicole doing? No, actually, let me guess. Let me just guess this. Um, she is–she is acting just like she did with her hundreds of previous lovers and husbands and is treating you like you are damn special and the only man in this world who can possibly make her feel happy. Am I right?

Jake: Mm, you heard that ava and I are living together, huh?

Nicole: [Chuckles] It’s kinda hard to keep a secret in salem.

Jake: It’s not a secret.

Nicole: Well, last I heard, she was hiding out in a motel because she’s wanted by the police.

Jake: Not anymore.

Nicole: Right. What I’m trying to say is that if she can afford a motel, why is she crashing with you?

Jake: Because, nicole, i invited her to. If I’m being honest, money’s a little tight right now, with me being unemployed and ava–

Nicole: Being a fugitive?

[Scoffs] Okay, so what, in exchange for a place to sleep, she’s cooking lasagna and perhaps cracking the occasional kneecap?

Jake: No, no, no, nobody’s cracking anything.

Nicole: Oh.

Jake: In fact, ava realized the whole suzy homemaker thing is not really working out.

Nicole: Because she’s more of a lizzie borden type.

Jake: [Chuckles] Okay, how about we change the subject, huh?

Nicole: Okay, fine, agreed. But can I just give you a little friendly advice?

Jake: Go for it.

Nicole: Ava’s been my friend for a long time, and I know, i know she seems fun and chill and kinda the “grab a beer and eat a cannoli” type, but she’s dangerous, so just do yourself a favor and watch your back.

Jake: Mm, sounds a little more like a warning than advice.

Nicole: I suppose it is, considering she framed rafe for a crime he didn’t commit.

Gabi: Mr. Hutchins?

Hutchins: Who are you?

Gabi: I’m, uh, assistant da lola montez. May I come in? With depression, it’s my 5:52 woke-up-like-thismigraine medicine.

Gwen: My god, matty cakes, how long has it been?

Leo: It’s leo cakes.

Gwen: Leo cakes?

Leo: Mm-hmm.

Gwen: [Laughs] Leo. Leo, you know, I quite like the sound of that. It’s really fierce yet regal.

Leo: Mm, thank you. I am the lion queen, my love.

Gwen: Mm. I’m trying to remember the last time we saw each other. Um, when was it? It was, uh–[Gasps]–Oh, my god, it was that club. Do you remember the–with the, um–the mirrored ceilings? Then there was that dj there with that insane tiara.

Leo: Yes, in the gayborhood! Ps, I own that tiara now.

Gwen: How on earth did you do that?

Leo: Honey, I do not kiss and tell.

Gwen: Oh, come on, yes, of course you do.

Leo: Okay, that’s true, but i wanna hear about you. Are you still dancing on tables?

Gwen: I have hung up my dancing shoes, I’m afraid.

Leo: Quelle dommage.

Gwen: Yeah, well, since i lost my dancing partner, kicking up my heels sort of just lost its appeal, you know?

Leo: We did define philly nightlife, didn’t we?

Gwen: God, didn’t we? I cannot count how many bars and clubs have us to thank for putting them on the map. We–you and I, we really had some wild nights, didn’t we?

Leo: Ah, well, we had the time. Your boyfriend, jake, was always working nights as a “mechanic.”

Gwen: Yeah, his job did require quite a few euphemisms, didn’t it?

Leo: Is that why you’re here? Are you in the program?

Gwen: Witness protection?

Leo: Mm-hmm.

Gwen: No, no. And, um, jake and I, we’re–we’re not together anymore.

Leo: He’s not…

Gwen: Dead?

Leo: Mm-hmm.

Gwen: No. He’s alive and well, and he’s actually living here in salem.

Leo: You’re kidding.

Gwen: Yeah. We’ve actually managed to peacefully co-exist here for a while now.

Leo: Any chance of a reconciliation?

Gwen: No, no, none whatsoever. I have zero interest. Plus, he’s with somebody else now, so…

Leo: Hmm.

Jake: If ava did frame rafe, why hasn’t she been arrested?

Nicole: ‘Cause there’s no proof.

Jake: Oh, what? So maybe, maybe she didn’t do it? I mean, she has–nicole, she has denied it, right?

Nicole: Oh, come on, please. Tell me you do not believe her.

Jake: I got no reason not to.

Nicole: Oh, gosh, jake. She’s–[Groans]

Jake: Okay, let’s just say for a second, hypothetically, that ava did set rafe up. Didn’t rafe go behind her back first and cheat on her with you?

Nicole: [Sighs]

Rafe: You leave nicole alone.

Ava: Oh, aren’t we protective? You got it backwards, commish. She slapped me.

Rafe: After you slapped her.

Ava: If you ask me, she definitely had it coming.

Rafe: You go near nicole, I’m gonna add assault to the long list of crimes you’re already going to be facing soon.

Ava: I’m not really worried about that.

Rafe: Yeah? Well, you should be. And this time, I don’t even need to use department time or resources to find you.

Ava: That’s interesting, ’cause I don’t recall sending you my forwarding address.

Rafe: Yeah, you didn’t need to. I know exactly where you live.

Xander: Unfortunately, sarah’s condition has gotten much worse.

Jack: Then she still thinks she’s renee dumonde?

Xander: No. [Sighs] No, she, uh–she knows she’s sarah horton… but now she thinks she’s a little girl. The antidote that rolf concocted caused her to regress back to her childhood.

Jack: I’m so sorry to hear that.

Xander: Maggie told me that sarah’s doctor saw no sign that she was getting better, but i thought it was only right that i see her for myself.

Jack: And how did that go?

Xander: She had absolutely no clue who I was. I tried to spark her memory, but it didn’t work. I think her doctors are right. There’s nothing more they can do for her.

Jack: So you’re moving on with gwen?

Xander: Ah, jack. Gwen has been just so incredibly patient with me. She gave me all the space and time that I needed to sort out my feelings about all of this, and all she asked in return was that I make her one promise: If the antidote didn’t work, that I’d marry her. So that’s what I’m gonna do. You still there, jack?

Jack: Yes, yes, I am. I just wonder…

Xander: Wonder what?

Jack: Xander, do you really think you’re marrying gwen for the right reasons? My asthma felt anything but normal.

Hutchins: You’re an assistant da?

Gabi: I work with melinda trask.

Hutchins: Then I got nothing to say to you.

Gabi: Please, you’re gonna wanna hear what I have to say. Please, mr. Hutchins.

Hutchins: Make it quick.

Gabi: Ava vitali is about to be arrested.

Hutchins: You don’t say.

Gabi: Yes, we believe that she orchestrated a plan to frame commissioner hernandez, a plan that you’re familiar with since you accused him of planting evidence, falsely accused.

Hutchins: I didn’t hear anything about ava vitali being arrested.

Gabi: Yeah, we’ve been keeping it quiet for obvious reasons, but we feel like we have a good case against her. We’d have a stronger one if you testified.

Hutchins: Not interested.

Gabi: Are you sure about that? Because if you did, my office could make the charges against you go away.

Ava: So gabi told you that i moved in with jake?

Rafe: She may have mentioned it.

Ava: Hmm. It’s eating her alive that I’m living with him, isn’t it?

Rafe: I wouldn’t go that far.

Ava: Really? Because when she stopped by his place last night and found me in his bed, she–her head practically exploded.

Rafe: Doubt that.

Ava: [Laughs] It was really pathetic. Yeah, she–she practically threw herself at him in front of me, and she’s begging him, pleading with him to take her back, and of course he said no, and then finally he had to kick her out.

Rafe: Well–well, I’m sure she’s over it by now.

Ava: Yeah, so much so that she went running straight to her big brother and let him know what’s going on. Yeah. Now that she knows that I’m living with her ex, I’m sure she can’t stop thinking about what we’re up to.

Rafe: She knows what you’re up to. Nothing.

Ava: Yeah, but things can change. You know that when we were all living under the same roof, I–i did find jake to be very, very intriguing.

Rafe: Now you’re just trying to make me jealous.

Ava: Oh, come on, what would be the point in that? You’re with nicole now, right? And I’m on my way home to jake. Oh, you might wanna give gabi a little heads-up that, uh, those changes that I was talking about–they may be coming a lot sooner than I thought.

Rafe: [Chuckles] Sure.

[Sighs]

Nicole: Okay, you know what? Rafe did cheat on ava with me, but the last I checked, they don’t send people to jail for that.

Jake: Well, maybe ava thinks that they should.

Nicole: Well, since they weren’t going to, ava took matters into her own hands.

Jake: Innocent until proven guilty. Hey, you said, nicole, there’s no proof.

Nicole: Ava vitali is many things. Innocent is not one of them.

Jake: Hmm, and you’re the poster child for innocence, nicole? I mean, haven’t we already established that you went behind your good friend’s back and lied about it for months?

Nicole: All right, you wanna trust ava, fine, trust her. I’m just trying to give you a little advice.

Jake: Thank you, nicole, but I’m a big boy. I can look after myself.

Nicole: Jake, look, i understand you worked really hard to put your life of crime behind you. Don’t let ava suck you back in, because I guarantee you, if she goes down, she is taking you with her.

Craig: I know you’re hurting, nancy, but try to focus on the good memories, you know? We had some wonderful times together.

Nancy: I suppose we had a few.

Craig: A few? Come on. What about all the wonderful things we did in high school?

Nancy: Do you remember when we–when we entered the senior talent show?

Craig: [Laughs] You mean when you swore you could back me up on “send in the clowns”?

Nancy: I–I did.

Craig: Yeah, on a kazoo.

[Mimics kazoo]

Nancy: Well, we took first place, didn’t we?

Craig: Yeah, yeah, we did. It was one of the best nights of my life. Look… our life together was real. Our love was real. The years we spent raising children together was real. Nancy, I know, I know that the future looks completely different from the way we ever imagined it, but those memories, those–those moments, they’re–they’re just as meaningful now as they ever were.

Nancy: Yeah, they are… except I wanted them to last forever. Okay, this is a freezer, not a time capsule.

Leo: It is too bad you and jake broke up. I’m just saying, the guy was very hot.

Gwen: What are you talking about? You never even met him.

Leo: I saw him a few times from afar.

Gwen: Well, it doesn’t even matter anyway, because jake and I–we’re ancient history. Plus, I have a new man now.

Leo: So do I. He’s crazy about me. So crazy, he left his wife.

Gwen: Oh, my goodness, what is it with you and straight men? Why are they always your cup of tea?

Leo: Can I help it if i appreciate a beautiful body, even if it happens to belong to someone who is hopelessly heterosexual? But my guy is different. He was closeted.

Gwen: [Laughs] How is that any better?

Leo: Well, because he’s out now, and he’s walking down the aisle with me.

Gwen: Stop it.

Leo: Tell all the boys I’ve loved before it is the end of an era. Mr. Right proposed. I said yes. I’m getting married.

[Laughs]

Gwen: Oh, my god! That is so wonderful. Congratulations.

Leo: Wait, hold on just a second. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. What is this?

Gwen: This…

Leo: Uh-huh?

Gwen: This right here? Is this what you’re talking about? I believe they call that an engagement ring.

Leo: I–does this mean…

Gwen: Yes, my boyfriend proposed, and we’re also getting married.

Leo: [Laughs gleefully]

Xander: What do you mean, am I marrying gwen for the right reasons?

Jack: I hear the sadness in your voice.

Xander: Of course I’m sad, jack. I just watched a remarkable woman, a woman I–a woman who meant a great deal to me, turn into a child before my eyes.

Jack: Look, I–I don’t mean to be insensitive. I just–I–I wanna understand this promise you made to gwen.

Xander: I don’t know how i can say it any more clearly. I promised gwen that if the antidote didn’t work, that I’d marry her, and that’s exactly what I’m gonna do.

Jack: Because you’re madly in love with her and she’s the only woman you can imagine spending your life with? Or because you feel obligated?

[Somber music]

I’m sorry. I–I–I’m not trying to cause you any more pain, but gwen has suffered a great deal in her life as well.

Xander: Jack, look, I know that you’re just trying to protect your daughter, but believe me, gwen is–gwen is not some consolation prize in all of this, and I didn’t make that promise just to hedge my bets. It was an attempt to honor what sarah and I had, while still, at the same time, trying to be fair to gwen. So, to answer your question, jack, yes, I’m marrying gwen for all the right reasons, and I’m gonna dedicate the rest of my life to making her as happy as she makes me.

Hutchins: How can you make the charges against me go away?

Gabi: Well, the thing is that, uh, rafe hernandez being released didn’t reflect very well on my boss. She still has egg on her face from the debacle with judge smails.

Hutchins: Who?

Gabi: You know what? Never mind. The point is that there is nothing melinda trask hates more than looking like a fool. Now she’s on a warpath to take down any and every criminal she can.

Hutchins: Maybe that’s why they moved up my court date. I got something in the mail soon after hernandez was found not guilty of planting evidence against me.

Gabi: That’s not coincidence. That’s trask going scorched earth.

Hutchins: If that’s her mo, why would she drop the charges against me?

Gabi: She’s only after all you little fish because she couldn’t land the big one. But you could change that.

Hutchins: [Scoffs] By giving her ava vitali?

Gabi: Trask has no doubt that ava was behind the plan to take the commissioner down. If you got on the stand, you back that up, I’m sure she could find a way to make your case go bye-bye. The lows of bipolar depression

Gabi: So will you testify? If you’re worried about retaliation, we can protect you.

Hutchins: You mean that?

Gabi: Absolutely.

Rafe: Hi. Sorry I’m late. Been here long?

Nicole: No, not too long. You were worth the wait. I got you a beer.

Rafe: Thank you. Cheers. Ah, needed this.

Nicole: Tough day?

Rafe: It was fine, until I ran into ava.

Ava: Hey!

Jake: Hey.

Ava: You, um–you wanna share the rest of the lo mein with me? There’s also kung pao left over in the fridge.

Jake: Nah, no, I’m good. I just had a big plate of wings at that little bar downtown.

Ava: Mm.

Jake: Ran into nicole there.

Ava: Ah. My condolences.

Jake: Eh. She knows we’re living together.

Ava: Yeah?

Jake: Uh-huh.

Ava: So how many seconds till she started trashing me?

Jake: Well, she gave me a warning.

Ava: Well, what does she think I’m going to do, huh?

Jake: Well, she told me that you were gonna pull me into my old life, and that when you get taken down, you’re gonna take me down with you, and she would not let up on the notion that you set rafe up.

Ava: Hmm. And, uh, what did you say?

Jake: I told her you didn’t do anything to rafe, and she needs to curb her judgment, because she’s no saint herself.

Ava: Well, that is very chivalrous of you.

Jake: Well, I’m not a fan of hypocrites, especially when they play all high and mighty.

Ava: Okay, well, it does seem like nicole is thinking I’m a bit of a threat, so you sure you want me to still stay with you here?

Jake: Yeah. Like I told nicole, I’m a big boy. I can watch out for myself.

Nancy: You’re really going through with this, craig? You’re actually going to marry leo?

Craig: Yes, as soon as the papers are filed. Probably next week. Look, nancy, I know it’s sudden, and I know you and chloe and the whole town are skeptical of leo, but people change.

Nancy: And you really do love him?

Craig: Yeah, um, we love each other.

[Laughs]

Nancy: Well, if that’s true, then, craig, I’m happy for you.

Craig: You–you mean that? You–you really mean that?

Nancy: I’m trying.

Craig: [Laughs] Nancy… maybe–ah, maybe you’ll consider…

Nancy: Consider what?

Craig: Maybe you’ll consider coming to our wedding. Like pulsing, electric shocks,

Nancy: Come to your wedding?

Craig: Nancy… you have been with me at all the most important moments of my life. This moment, this–this step I’m taking–I don’t wanna take it without you.

Nancy: I–I don’t know, craig.

Craig: Well, will you at least think about it?

Nancy: I’ll think about it.

Leo: You’re getting married too? When?

Gwen: Next week.

Leo: So am I. I haven’t planned a thing.

Gwen: Neither have we. My god, I mean, things, um– things–things got a bit complicated, actually, and, um, well, we were in a bit of a holding pattern for a while. But now it’s full steam ahead.

Leo: This is like nuptial kismet. I haven’t seen you in forever, run into you in snoresville of all places, and we’re getting married at the same time.

Gwen: [Exhales] I know, it’s incredible.

Leo: You are my cosmic, karmic, bridal twin…

Gwen: [Laughs]

Leo: Except…

Gwen: Except what?

Leo: Well, you said things got complicated. Are you, uh–are you with child?

Gwen: Pregnant? No.

Leo: Oh.

Gwen: Ugh, yes. God, I can see it in my mind, this glorious, magical celebration.

Leo: Hmm, I’m right there with you. I want as much pomp as possible with my circumstance.

Gwen: You know, it’s funny, though, because I–I don’t know where it came from. I didn’t really grow up watching princess movies as a ward of the state.

Leo: Same. It’s not like after my dad was done knocking my mom and me around, we sat down in front of the telly and watched “cinderella.”

Gwen: But you did find your prince.

Leo: [Exhales] I did. He’s a doctor. He’s brilliant, handsome, loaded.

Gwen: Oh, my. Well, it sounds like your wedding will be an impeccably catered five-star affair, and mine will be some picnic by a river somewhere.

Leo: [Laughs] Picnics can be posh.

Gwen: I did. It was a tad expensive.

Xander: Well, tuxes aren’t cheap either. I’m starting to wonder how far we’ll get just on my maxed-out credit cards and winning smile.

Gwen: Actually, my darling, I have a proposition for you.

[Solemn music]

Nancy: [Crying]

Leo: Mm! How did it go?

Craig: It went as good as could be expected, I guess.

Leo: So nancy signed the papers?

Craig: Yeah, she signed. Justin’s gonna file the papers in the morning, and then we can make plans to move forward with the wedding.

Leo: Oh, I cannot wait. About those plans…

Craig: Mm-hmm?

Leo: I have a proposition for you.

Xander: A double wedding? With who?

Leo: My friend, gwen. We go back years. She and her fiancé can’t afford a nice wedding, so I kind of suggested that we share ours.

Gwen: My friend and his fiancé have plenty of money, and he told me that they’d be more than happy to include us in their wedding.

Xander: That is awfully generous of him.

Craig: That was awfully generous of you.

Leo: I know, I should have talked to you about it first, but she’s such a dear friend, and the thought of her having her reception on some sad picnic tables? What do you think?

Sonny: [Sighs]

Leo: Yes, he proposed. No, there’s nothing that bitch can do about it. Let me call you back. Craig just got here.

[Phone beeps] Hey, babE. I didn’t see you– I didn’t see you come in.

Craig: Yeah. Who were you speaking with?

Leo: Uh, just an old friend. I was sharing the good news.

Craig: Mm-hmm.

Leo: So how’d it go with the lawyer?

Craig: Just got off the video call.

Leo: And?

Craig: And…all looks good.

Leo: So this means…

Craig: Nancy and i will be signing the divorce papers tonight.

Nancy: I didn’t expect to see you two here tonight. Um, I’m waiting for justin and your father to… sign the divorce paperS.

[Sighs]

Maggie: Oh, great.

Nancy: Chloe, i more than anyone know how difficult this is to face reality, but we have to. Your father is gay and our marriage is over.

Chloe: I know that, mom. And I’ve accepted reality, and I accept dad for who he is and that he needs to move on, but who he’s moving on with, leo stark, is gonna ruin his life.

Nancy: And I should care about that because?

Chloe: Because dad’s gonna get hurt, and I’m not just talking emotionally.

Brady: Nancy, he could lose everything. He could end up being jobless and homeless. I mean, if leo is desperate enough, he could lose his life.

Chloe: Mom, we don’t mean to scare you, and I know you don’t want to get involved, but dad, he really does need your helP.

Nancy: What do you want me to do?

Brady: Just stall the divorce. Just for a little while.

Chloe: Just long enough for us to come up with some sort of way that…

[Sighs] Dad’s not gonna make the biggest mistake of his life.

Maggie: Are you sure that marrying gwen is what you really want?

Xander: I do love her, maggie.

Maggie: As much as you love sarah? Oh. Oh. I’m sorrY. I shouldn’t have asked that.

Xander: Maggie, what– what gwen and I share is– is different from what i had with sarah. ObviouslY. I mean, come on, maggiE. Your daughter was so far out of my league. I mean, she was this goddess, and I was just some pitiful rogue. But a determined one. I was gonna find a way to prove my love to her, and that i was worthy of her love.

Maggie: And you did, xander.

Xander: Sarah inspired me to try and be a– be a better man, you know? She gave me hope that i could become what– what I’d never imagined. A husband, a father, a friend. But when sarah left, I lost that hope and became the rogue again. Marauding about, trying to cause as much damage as I could. But then gwen came along.

[Sighs] And she’s someone who’s spent her whole life feeling unwanted. And she appears heartless and cruel, but really she just– just desperately wants to be accepted, to belong, to be valued. And god, did I recognize that in heR. And I related to it, and it made me care. So much so that– well, I came to love her deeply.

Maggie: [Sniffles] Despite all the damage that she’s caused?

Xander: I don’t condone what gwen did, maggie, but I do understand it. It’s how we connected. We were there for each other during the darkest times of our lives. She’d just lost her baby, and I’d just lost sarah to rex.

Maggie: But you didn’t lose sarah. That was a terrible lie.

Gwen: Yeah, it’s true. Xander and I, we’re getting married in a week. God, you look shocked.

Abigail: I am. I am.

Gwen: Why? You knew that xander and I were engageD.

And I don’t see this wedding as being some sort of magical reconciliation, but… I do see it as an opportunity for us to just move closer. Sonny: Uh, well, I lost my best undercover man, but I’m still holding out hope that, you know, craig will finally come to his senses.

Craig: You shouldn’t be.

Leo: I know, I just– look, I am so angry at the lengths she and her friends went to to try and break us up.

Craig: Leo, i’m angry about it too. But she’s my daughter, and I love her, and that’s never gonna change. So you just better find a way to get along with her.

Craig: Okay, okay, look. Chloe is a very caring and protective and supportive persoN. But she just found out her dad is gay, he’s divorcing her mom, and he’s getting married to a man. I’d be thrown by that. Don’t you think she would be too?

Leo: Okay. I think I can be more empathetic. And who knows, maybe once things calm down, chloe will be more accepting of us after you and nancy sign those papers.

Maggie: It’s all my fault. What was I thinking, trusting my daughter’s mental health to stefano dimera’s mad scientist?

Xander: But you didn’t, maggie. You wanted that drug to go through proper safety trials before sarah tried iT.

Xander: I hope you press charges against that witch.

Maggie: Oh, I plan to. But right now, my focus has to be on sarah. Getting her into the best long-term care facility possible.

Xander: Has it really come to that?

Maggie: I’m afraid it has. I’m taking her to a clinic in florida where abigail was taken after she…

Xander: After gwen drugged her.

Maggie: Mm. Yeah.

Chad: What the hell is this?

Gwen: Um… Right, well, um, I will let you fill in your husband on the very good newS. Um, ’cause I have a million things to do, so i will talk to you later.

Chad: You know that’s gwen, right?

Chad: And yet– yet you were hugging her.

Abigail: Well, she hugged me.

Chad: Why?

Abigail: Because I just agreed to be her matron of honor at her wedding.

Chad: I thought xander was gonna wait to see if sarah got better.

Abigail: He was. But apparently there’s no hope of that happeninG. So it looks like my cousin might be lost to us forever.

Xander: Abigail did really well at that facility. She made a complete recovery.

Maggie: Sarah’s prognosis, it isn’t as hopeful. But I have to do whatever I can. I don’t know, maybe this place can find a way to help her somehow.

Xander: God, I hope so. Well, how long will you be in florida?

Maggie: Until sarah’s settled in.

Xander: Well, good luck, maggiE. And please tell me how it’s all going, yeah?

Maggie: I will. And xander, I’m sorry that you won’t be my son-in-laW. I still care about you. I really do hope that gwen makes you happY.

Xander: Thank you so much.

[Sniffles] And please… take good care of yourself.

Maggie: I will.

Leo: No, I’m sorry I had to jump off so quickly beforE. [Chuckles] No. He just left to go and sign the divorce papers. Nothing and no one can stop this wedding now. [Troubled music]

Gwen: I saw maggie on my way in. Did– did something happen to sarah?

Xander: Maggie’s taking her to florida, where she can get long-term care.

Gwen: [Sighs] I’m so sorry, xander.

Xander: It’s just tragic, what’s been done to her.

Gwen: I know. I know it is. It’s really, really tragic. But with help and the proper support, she might be able to lead a somewhat normal life.

Xander: How’d it go with abigail?

Gwen: She said she’d do it.

Xander: Really?

Gwen: YeaH. [Laughs] My little sister’s gonna be my matron of honor.

Xander: Gwen, I’m so happy for yoU. Wow, i mean, can you believe all the progress you’ve made? Not just with abigail, but in every aspect of your life. I hope you are as proud as i am of how far you’ve come.

Chad: So you think gwen is a criminal, and gwen thinks you’re trying to sabotage her life, yet she asked you to stand for her at her wedding, and you actually said yes?

Abigail: Yeah. She went on and on about the importance of family and how much it would mean to my dad, and i guess it got to me.

Chad: Okay, so she guilted you into it?

Abigail: You could put it that way.

Chad: The wedding’s not till next week. You can call her and tell her you changed your mind.

Abigail: I don’t know.

Chad: Nobody’s gonna blame you after what she put you througH. Here, call gwen, and you can tell her where she can stuff her wedding.

Leo: My point is, I understand that we’re not gonna have the kind of relationship where we’re jetting off for spa weekends, but I’m willing to try and get along. For your dad’s sakE. That is, if you arE. What do you say? How about I buy us all a drink? You know, this place has an actually pretty decent cosmo.

Brady: I have to get to granddad’s because maggie is taking sarah to a clinic in florida, so I want to say goodbye before they leave.

Craig: I’m sorry, nancy. I–it just– I didn’t mean it to come out that way.

Nancy: You know what? Let’s just get this over with, shall we? Justin, do you have a pen?

Leo: One more for the road?

Brady: Tempting, but no. I gotta get going, so…

Leo: He said I could use it. We’re gonna be married soon, and what’s mine will be his, and what’s his will be mine.

Chad: Seriously, I want you to call gwen, and I want you to tell her you changed your mind.

Chad: Because she pressured you into iT.

Abigail: True, but aside from that, I truly believe that she loves xander, and as much as it breaks my heart that sarah is so badly damaged, I have to at least try to respect that gwen and xander make each other happy, even though it’s so strange that they’re together.

Chad: Speaking of strange… I went to statesville to see rolf before my meeting with sonny.

Abigail: How did that go?

Chad: He has no idea what went wrong. He said that the antidote he made for sarah should’ve workeD.

Abigail: Well, it certainly seemed to work out for gwen, didn’t it?

Gwen: Oh, my god, I can’t believe we’re actually getting married. We’re getting married next week.

Xander: My wife, mrs. Gwendolyn cook.

Gwen: Oh, my god. I love the sound of that so much. You know what? I wanna get some stationery, actually, with my new initials on it. And I want a tote bag and one of those really plush bathrobes. I’ve never had one before.

Xander: Hmm. You know, as much as i appreciate your passion for monogrammed goods, they are not in the budgeT.

Gwen: Oh, yeaH. Right, the budgeT. Did you have any luck getting a tuxedo in our budget?

Xander: I can’t find a bow tie in our budget.

Gwen: Well, i’ll just have to help you when I get back, then.

Xander: Ah-da-da. You just got home. Where you running off to now?

Gwen: I just, um– I wanna run off to sweet bits before they close. We need to get them working on a wedding cake immediately.

Xander: Can’t that wait till the morning?

Gwen: No. It cannot wait till the morning, my handsome darlinG. We only have a few days to pull this all togetheR. And I want everything to be just perfect for our big day. Love you.

Gwen: I really do. I’ll be back.

Abigail: So if the drug had worked properly, sarah would’ve been back to her old self, probably would’ve gotten back together with xander, and gwen would’ve been left out in the cold.

Chad: Your sister lucked ouT.

Abigail: I guess. Maggie called earlier. She’s taking sarah to florida.

Chad: The clinic?

Abigail: I just hope they can do for my cousin what they did for me.

Brady: Yeah. Craig and nancy are signing their divorce papers tonight, and craig is going to marry leo as soon as possible.

Sonny: Oh, my god. That’s awful. I mean, how can he be so damn clueless?

Brady: I don’t know, sonny. It boggles my mind. Leo–I mean, I say his name, it makes my skin crawl. Chloe and I heard him gloating on the phone earlier about his victory to somebody named jackie.

Marlena: Yeah, ben, i didn’t realize that we had an appointment.

Ben: We don’t, but ciara and I are having a party, and it turns out that she thought that I invited you and I thought that she invited you, so this is gonna be a little last-minute.

Marlena: Oh. Okay, well, when is the party?

Ben: Today. And I know how busy you are, but it would mean the world to me if you could be there.

Marlena: Aw. What’s the occasion?

Ben: It’s our gender reveal party. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. And ciara and I would not even be having this baby if it weren’t for you.

Julie: Oh, shawn and douglas, thank goodness you’re here. I was beginning to worry.

[Chuckles]

Doug: Does belle need any help bringing anything in from the car?

Shawn: No, no, no. She didn’t come with me.

Doug: Well, when will she be here?

Shawn: Actually, I don’t know if she’s coming at all.

Paulina: She’s doing her best. You know, trying to be brave, bless her heart. I was just checking her to let her know that I’ll come back to the hospital anytime that she wants some company. How are you doing?

Paulina: No, you’re not. I can see it in your eyes that you’re noT. Come over herE. Come over here, baby. Come on, baby, just sit right down right next to me. What you doing moping around here, anyway? Aren’t you supposed to be going to a party with allie today?

Chanel: [Sighs]

Paulina: Chanel. Chanel, did something happen?

Ciara: Oh, no, all good. I know how busy you and chanel are. I figured you guys needed a break.

Allie: Yeah, we did need a break. From each other.

Paulina: I feel like I’m having whiplash. Then you just tell me the other day that now you are officially a thing?

Paulina: Well, what the heck happened? You sounded so happy.

Chanel: I was. One minute, we were making weekend plans, and the next, allie’s saying that she doesn’t want anything to do with me.

Paulina: No, I can’t drive when I’m upset like this. I tend to get lost.

John: Eh, no, I think there might be. You see, I came in really late last night from a stakeout and your mother said you stayed here overnight because you got in some kind of a fight with shawn?

John: Yeah. Now, i don’t know all the details, but it had to be a doozy, ’cause it’s not like you to get yourself smashed in the middle of the day.

Belle: Well, it’s not every day you find out that jan spears is gonna have your husband’s baby.

Julie: You slept with jan spears?

Shawn: No, I slept with my wife. I just– I thought jan was belle.

Julie: How drunk were you?

Shawn: I wasn’t drunk at alL. It was the devil. He morphed jan into looking exactly like belle.

Julie: Oh, lord.

Shawn: I don’t know. I guess I should’ve known, but i–

Doug: You remember who you’re talking to here?

Julie: My darling husband was possessed by the devil for weeks and I had no idea. So darling, if you need to talk with someone who understands, I’m sitting here.

Roman: Hey, sis. You’re early.

Kayla: Am I?

Roman: Yeah, and that hasn’t happened since 1982.

Kayla: Ha. Very funny. Well, I do have nothing but time on my hands now.

Roman: Yeah. Still can’t believe that burns fired you. How many years of your life have you dedicated to that hospital only to have craig wesley show up out of nowhere, take your job?

Kayla: Yeah, the worst part about it is I didn’t see it coming. But I am going to look at the bright side and take this opportunity to do some things that I haven’t done in years.

Roman: Like?

Kayla: Like go to a party in the middle of the afternoon to celebrate our niece’s upcoming blessed event. Are you ready to go?

Roman: Yep. Just gotta grab the party tray from the back.

Clyde: Way ahead of you, boss. Hey, if you two are headed over to my son’s party, any chance i could get a lift?

Marlena: How are you feeling?

Ben: About the baby, you mean?

Marlena: Mm-hmm. I know it was a difficult decision for you.

Ben: Yeah, I mean, every parent worries about what their kid’s gonna turn out to be, right? Not to mention what kind of parents we’ll end up being.

Marlena: Well, that’s– that’s natural.

Ben: Yeah.

Marlena: How is ciara handling it?

Ben: With a lot of research.

[Chuckles] She spent an hour last night talking about banking our baby’s umbilical cord blood.

Marlena: Mm-hmm?

Ben: Who even knew that was a thing?

[Both laugh]

Marlena: Oh, so much goes into having a baby.

Ben: Yeah, and I am fine with all of it. I do have my own concerns at the moment, but–

Marlena: Tell mE.

Ben: Um… my dad got out of prison and he’s bunking with us.

Marlena: Clyde is staying with you?

Ben: Yeah.

Marlena: How did that happen?

Ben: They let him out with nothing but the clothes on his bacK. He’s got nobody, he’s got nowhere to go, he’s got no job prospects.

Marlena: So you offered to let him stay with you?

Ben: I just felt like I owed him. After everything he did for me when I was in prison with him, it’s just–

Marlena: How does ciara feel about it?

Ben: She agreed with me.

Marlena: Mm.

Ben: But then, my dad started just getting overly involved with everything about our baby.

Marlena: I imagine clyde thinks of this as a second chance. An opportunity to be to this child what he never was to you.

Ben: I get that. I do. And he has been on his best behavior. I just don’t know how I’m gonna feel about things after this baby’s born. I don’t know if I’m gonna feel comfortable with him spending time like that with our kid.

Ciara: Wait, what happened with you and chanel? I mean, the last time we saw you guys at the square, you seemed so happy together.

Allie: Oh, you know, we just jumped into a relationship too quickly. It was a few weeks ago I was with tripp and she was with johnny.

Ciara: Right, but you both have had feelings for each other for a very long time.

Allie: I guess. I don’t know. Maybe we just need more time to focus on ourselves.

Ciara: Mm. So are you and chanel gonna be working at the bakery together now or?

Allie: No, nope. This delivering you this cake was actually my last official duty. So now, I’ll just have more time to focus oN…other interests.

Ciara: Mm. Well, thank you so much for doing that. What do I owe you?

Allie: It’s on the housE.

Ciara: Really?

Allie: Yeah. Consider it a gift.

Ciara: Oh, my god. That is so nice of you. Thank you.

Allie: It was an honor and a privilege to do this for you and your little one. You have no idea how excited I am to meet your baby.

John: So jan’s pregnant?

Belle: Yep.

John: With shawn’s child?

Belle: I saw her belly bump myself. She was so happy to show it to me.

John: Oh, my goD. You know, just when I’m starting to let myself think that the devil can’t hurt my family anymore.

Belle: Yeah, that old satan. Sure had it in for me, right? I mean, you bash him over the head one time and he never lets you forget it.

John: [Sighing] Oh.

Julie: This is what satan does. For his pleasure, he turns us against the people love most in the world. He sews doubt, and then fear, then we lose faith in each other and the whole family’s destroyed.

Shawn: Well, it didn’t work on you two.

Julie: Very nearly diD. I began to almost believe that doug had meant to lock me in the freezer and that he really had attacked me in the hospital.

Doug: Sweetheart, you didn’t really believe all that stuff?

Julie: I came close. The point, shawn-douglas, is it’s not your fault and i hope belle understands that.

Shawn: She says that she does.

Doug: But she’s not coming to the party?

Shawn: The thing is she doesn’t blame me for what happened with jan, it’s what happened afterwards. That’s the problem.

Julie: Well, what was it?

Shawn: Belle walked in on us and I don’t know, I was ashamed, I was embarrassed, and, like, I let her believe that nothing happened with jan and I.

Julie: So you didn’t let her know that you’d made love?

Shawn: I didn’t want to hurt her, and I just figured there was no reason for her to know.

Doug: But now that jan is preggers, there’s no denying it.

Clyde: So as a favor to your niece, your brother offered me a job.

Kayla: Did he?

Clyde: A very generous guY.

Kayla: Oh, to a fault.

Clyde: Not like I’m a total burden, though. I make a pretty mean steak and eggs, don’t I, rome? [Chuckles]

Roman: Yeah, he actually does.

Kayla: That’s great.

Clyde: But about that ride. If there’s no room in the car, that’s no worry. I can take a bus real easY.

Kayla: No. There’s room.

Clyde: You sure? ‘Cause I imagine you might feel a little uncomfortable associating with an unsavory character like myself.

Roman: We don’t need to get into that, man.

Clyde: Well, I’d like tO. I– I imagine you have some strong feelings about your ordeal with my fair-weather friend, orpheus.

Kayla: He’s no friend of mine.

Clyde: I get that. And I get that I got a lot to prove not only to the parole board, but this whole town. Especially my soN. I just wasn’t around when ollie was growing up and i really want to be there for my grandkid.

Marlena: You know, it’s understandable that you would have mixed feelings about clyde being involved in your baby’s life. We could talk about it when the event gets closer.

Ben: Right. Thank you.

Marlena: What are clyde’s plans now that he’s gonna be back in town?

Ben: Well, as a condition of his parole, he has to show that he’s going to be a productive member of society, so he’s working at the brady pub for now.

[Both chuckle]

Marlena: Roman hired him?

Ben: Yeah. He’s doing it as a favor to ciara. And then ej dimera offered him a job.

Marlena: Really?

Ben: Yeah.

Marlena: Why would he do that?

Ben: I guess they were cellmates at statesville and according to my dad, they developed some kind of a bond.

Marlena: So is he going to take the job?

Ben: No, it turns out that if he took the job, he’d have to leave town, and another condition of his parole is that he can’t leave the jurisdiction. Plus…

Marlena: Plus he wants to be around the baby.

Ben: Yeah, and you know what? To be honest, the three of us in this apartment’s already a little too close for comfort, so i’m hoping he just saves up enough money and he moves out before the baby’s born.

Marlena: That’s going to happen very sooN.

Ben: Yeah, I know, but it’s just already enough stress going on right now and ciara being pregnant on top of it and finding out that the devil was after our baby.

Marlena: Yeah. Not once, but twicE.

Ben: And then right before we even get to breathe a sigh of relief, my father is on our doorstep.

Marlena: The good news is we know the devil is gone from salem for good.

Allie: So have you been nesting, buying cute, little onesies for your precious angel?

Ciara: No, not yet. Actually, I haven’t really bought much at all.

Allie: Why not?

Ciara: Superstition, I guess. I don’t know, buying something for the baby when it’s not even here yet kind of feels like it’s tempting fatE. Um, any advice on how to get this little baby of mine to settle down? It’s been kicking and going crazy ever since I opened the door.

Allie: I remember how that feels.

Ciara: Yeah.

Allie: Can I try something?

Ciara: Um, sure.

Allie: Talking to henry always worked for me. I’ve been told I have a soothing voice.

Ciara: You want to talk to my baby?

Allie: Do you mind?

Ciara: [Chuckling] No. Please go ahead.

Allie: [Sighs] Hi, little one. You don’t know me yet, but you will. Soon.

Julie: Well, grandson, what are you and belle going to do about this baby of jan’s?

Shawn: Well, I mean, jan still is in prison, so I–

[Doorbell rings] Hey, I’ll get that.

Doug: It’s so complicated, isn’t it?

Julie: It’s complicated and it’s terrible.

Doug: Yeah.

Kayla: Hi!

Roman: Hey.

Doug: I feel for them botH.

Julie: So do I. They all and shawn have been through terrible times before. We have to have faith that they’ll rise above this.

Doug: Right.

Roman: I guess we’re early.

Shawn: No, you’re right on time, actually. You can always get ready.

Kayla: Well, where’s belle?

Shawn: Uh, it’s kind of a long story.

John: You know, I can’t even imagine what you’re going through here, but i can understand why shawn didn’t tell you that he and jan slept together.

Belle: Yeah, well, I don’t understand. We are married. We tell each other everything.

Doug: Yes, yes, and no. Under certain circumstances, we may have to make choices. Sometimes they’re right and–

Belle: And sometimes, they’re selfish and destructive.

John: YeaH. Okay. So now, you know. I mean, what difference does it make when you found out?

Belle: Because if I would’ve known sooner, I could’ve prepared for this instead of being ambushed at the prison.

John: Oh. Okay, bottom line is honey, you hiding out here and not talking to shawn, it’s not gonna help you find any kind of solution.

Belle: There is no solution. And that’s exactly the way the devil wanted iT.

Paulina: Uh, what are you doing?

Chanel: Canceling the taxi. Yes, yes, I’m still here, but I’m not gonna need the taxi anymore. Thanks, anyways.

Paulina: [Scoffs] And why did you do that?

Chanel: Well, why do you think? Because I can’t have you fighting my battles for me, mama.

Paulina: [Scoffs] I’m fighting with you, baby! Chanel, you cannot just let allie get away with this! Aren’t you angry?

Chanel: No. I’m– I’m sad. I’m really, really sad. And it’s not allie’s fault she doesn’t want me and it wasn’t johnny’s fault, either.

Paulina: Yeah, but it sure as hell is their fault for making you feel like the gum on the bottom of someone’s shoe.

Chanel: I don’t know if i’d put it like that.

Paulina: They disrespected you, they led you on, they made you think that they care about you, and then they just drop you like that? Well, what excuse did allie give?

Chanel: She–she said– she said almost exactly the same thing that johnny did. Is it me, mama? Is something wrong with me?

[Sobbing]

[Downbeat music]

Ciara: Oh, my god.

Allie: What?

Ciara: My baby stopped kicking my ribcage.

Allie: No kidding.

Ciara: Mm-hmm.

Allie: Well, I guess the little one and i have a special connection already.

Ciara: Mm. Guess you do.

Ben: Hey, allie.

Allie: Ben.

Ciara: Hi, sweetie.

Ben: How we doing? Hi.

Ciara: We are great. Allie’s just brought over the cake and it is gorgeous.

Allie: Yes, baked with extra care and love.

Ben: Oh, I knew we picked the right person for the job.

Ciara: Mm-hmm.

Allie: It means so much that you guys trusted me to be the first to know about the gender of your baby.

Ciara: Well, you and the devil.

Allie: I mean, does he really count? He’s a lot more than a persoN.

Ben: Let’s not talk about that part, thougH. PleasE.

Ciara: Yeah.

Allie: Of course. So after waiting all these months, are you guys finally ready to know if your baby is a boy or a girl?

Ciara: Can’t wait.

Allie: Well, it’s going to be a party for the ages. Sey leave me?

Paulina: No, of course not, baby. There’s nothing wrong with you. You’re perfect.

Chanel: That’s not what you said when I came into town and I married xander. [Sniffles]

Paulina: Oh, okay. Maybe not perfect. But none of us iS. But what you are–what you are is you’re a beautiful womaN. You’re intelligent and you’re so special.

Chanel: I’m spoiled and selfisH.

Paulina: Mm-mm, you have grown a lot during this last year. Oh, yeah. I see. I see big plans for you, chanel. And as for those evil twins that broke your heart, now them, they’re the ones who have something wrong with them.

Chanel: [Sighs] I really thought I was gonna work with allie. I felt so good when I was around her and I thought she saw me.

Paulina: Well, it’s her loss, babY. And you know what? You can do so much better than her or her brother. And those tears? They’re not worth those tearS.

[Chuckling] No.

Chanel: [Sobs]

Paulina: Mm-mm, mm-mm.

Chanel: Thank you, mama.

Paulina: No, thank you, baby, for bringing such joy into my life. Mm-hmm. You’re going places, chanel. And believe me, you are better off without both of theM.

Chanel: [Sniffles]

Paulina: Okay?

[Both smooch]

Ben: Hello.

Doug: Ben and ciara and baby makes three

[Laughter]

Ciara: Yes, it does. And just so you all know, the cake that allie has so kindly baked for us is more than just a cake. There is a very special surprise insidE.

Roman: Hmm.

Allie: Yeah, sorry it took so long. We had a bit of a personnel issue at the bakerY.

Roman: What kind of issue?

Allie: I quit.

Kayla: You quit sweet bits? Why?

Allie: It’s really a story for another day, but as for the cake, I can promise you that it is worth the wait.

Julie: Ah.

John: Are you really gonna give up on your marriage that easily?

Belle: No, of course I’m not gonna give uP. It’s just, you know, jan and all her schemes, they just– they felt almost comical after a while.

John: I’m not sure I ever saw the humor.

Belle: Oh, well, I’m not saying she wasn’t evil and conniving, i’m just saying she was never smart enough to finish something she set out to do. I mean, she’s like wile E. Coyote, right? Just blows herself up over and over agaiN.

John: Okay. That, i can see.

Belle: But the devil saw something in her. A willing partner. And when someone like jan teams up with the ultimate evil, that makes her extremely dangerous.

Marlena: Hey, I, um, I thought I would call belle and see if I can talk her into joining us.

Shawn: Thank you, but i’m not really holding out much hope.

Marlena: Okay, well, then I will hold out enough hope for both of us. How’s that?

Clyde: And you might think a guy like me would be hoping for a blue cake today, passing down the name and alL.

Ben: But dad–

Clyde: But you know, ollie here changed his name, but I’ve always liked olivia for a girl.

Ben: Let’s go get you a drink, huh?

Ciara: Yeah, good plan.

Ben: Good plan.

Roman: Excuse me.

[Clears throat] Allie.

Allie: Oh, hi, grandpa.

Roman: Hi. Um… everything okay?

Allie: Yeah, of course. I’m just happy to be around all of these wonderful people. Why?

Roman: Well, I was just surprised to hear you quit the bakerY. And, uh, I don’t know, you just seem a little like– not yourself.

Allie: It’s been a rough couple of days, but I’m good. Really. Best I’ve ever been.

Marlena: Okay. Uh, belle won’t be coming. She said she’s just not up to it.

Shawn: Yeah, she doesn’t want to celebrate someone’s baby. I get that.

Doug: Gender reveal parties? Boy, there wasn’t anything like that in my day. [Chuckles]

Julie: Well, there weren’t any microwave ovens, either, darling.

Doug: True, truE.

Julie: I think it’s fun.

Kayla: Yeah, it’s another excuse to have a party, anyway, right?

Doug: Right. [Chuckles]

Julie: [Chuckles]

Ciara: So I just wanted to thank you guys for coming and celebrating with us and this little nugget over here.

Roman: I have heard horror stories about these parties. Forest fires, explosions.

Ben: No, we don’t have to worry about any of that. All we have is a delicious desserT.

Doug: Right. You’re gonna assure me that there’s not gonna be any fireworks?

Julie: Well, I campaigned for something exciting, but I was told, oh, no, it’s all going to be very…

[Imitates splat sound] Conservative. Going to be sedate.

[Laughter]

Ciara: [Sighs]

Shawn: So you got feelings? Boy, girl, does it matter?

Ben: Nope. Not at all.

Ciara: Mm-mM. I always say as long as the baby’s healthy and obviously, we want our baby to be healthy, but after this pregnancy, no matter what, we’re going to love this baby with our whole hearts and souls.

Ben: Amen.

Ciara: Yeah.

Doug: Marlena, honey, you have a apologized to us a million times.

Julie: And a million times, we’ve told you you have nothing to apologize for.

Marlena: I did such horrible things to both of you.

Julie: Well, we know it wasn’t really you doing those things. Oh, no. From the first day, the first encounter with satan, you were so bravE. You saved my husband’s lifE. You made a deal with the devil for doug’s sake knowing what it was like when he came into your body before knowing what it would be like agaiN. Marlena, you’re a hero.

Allie: I agree. Grandma, you’re a queeN.

Marlena: You are so sweet.

Allie: I mean it. You know, we haven’t been spending a lot of time together recently. I really do miss you.

Chanel: It’s not just that allie broke up with me. I lost my girlfriend, but also my best friend and business partner. I would probably just leave salem and start all over if it wasn’t for the bakery.

Paulina: Mm, so, doesn’t have anything to do with you wanting to stay close to your mama?

Chanel: Oh, sorry, mama. You know you mean more to me than the bakery does. And lani and my sweet, little niece and nephew.

Paulina: [Chuckles] Baby, you know I’m just teasing. I know how much we all mean to you. [Sighs] Now, that goes both ways, darling girl. You listen to me. Don’t you even think about letting those creepy twins run you off. You stay here, you hold your head up high, and you be proud of who you are. Just as proud as i am of you. Aw.

Chanel: [Sniffles]

Allie: Sometimes, a gender reveal cake is just a regular cake with food coloring, but I wanted to do something really special for ben and ciara’s baby.

Julie: I knew you would. So what is it?

Allie: So when they cut into the cake, there’s going to be a delicious filling kind of like liquified icing that’s going to flow out.

Julie: Oh, like a lava cake.

Allie: Exactly. And it’s either going to be blue or pink. And then you’ll know.

Julie: Yeah, but you already know.

Allie: Of course. I had to know to bake the cake.

Julie: [Chuckles] Don’t suppose you could give us a little hint about what it is?

Doug: No, sweethearT. You have to wait a few minutes like the rest of us.

Allie: I promise you you’re going to be glad you did.

Julie: Ooh.

Kayla: Marlena, I am so relieved that you were able to keep your job at the hospital.

Marlena: Yes, but you lost yours. You sacrificed your job in order to save mine.

Kayla: And I would do it again. They need you there. But tell me, how were you able to convince craig to let you stay?

Marlena: Oh. A little blackmail. Not by me, thougH.

Kayla: Do you want something to drink?

Marlena: I would. Thank you.

Ciara: All right, everyone. The time has arrived. Who wants cake?

Doug: Me, me, me! Yes, me!

Julie: Anticipation is killing us. Yes, yes!

Ciara: Okay, so how do we do this?

Allie: It’s simple. Which one of you two wants to do the honors?

Ben: Ciara?

Ciara: Um–

Marlena: Oh, do it together.

[Chuckles]

Ciara: Perfect.

Ben: Ah.

Allie: PerfecT.

John: [Sighs] You know how many times your mother and I felt we were up against an insurmountable obstacle? And every time, every single time, we came out the other side even stronger.

Belle: I know. You have.

John: And I have faith that you and shawn will, toO.

Belle: That’s the thing, dad. It’s always been shawn and me against jaN. Together. But this time–

John: This time what? You think that shawn’s not on your side?

Belle: I know shawn. And no matter how he feels about jan, he is never gonna turn his back on his chilD. He’s gonna want to do right by her. Just like last timE. A baby changes everything. [Sobs]

Clyde: Gotta say, I’m feeling boy.

[Laughter]

Roman: Keep it to yourself.

Shawn: I’m thinking it’s a girL.

Kayla: Oh, same, same.

Ciara: [Sighs] All right, are you ready?

[Overlapping excited chatter]

[Suspenseful music]

[Chuckles]

[Shrill notes]

Julie: Oh, my god! It’s blood!

Kayla: What do you mean?

Julie: Blood, blood, blood, blood!

Julie: What the hell’s going on here?

Allie: What’s the problem?

Ciara: Allie, no! Ew.

Allie: What? It’s cherrY.

Julie: Cherry?

Allie: Oh, oh, no! You thought–I am so sorry about this, but I think I know what happened.

Paulina: I know that marlena’s my sister’s best friend, but there’s something wrong with that caN. I mean, first, the grandmother is possessed by the devil and then the daughter.

Chanel: Well, that’s not their fault.

Paulina: Yeah, I know, i know, and I know i can’t blame allie or johnny’s behavior on satan. But I’m telling you, I’m telling you, there’s something evil running through those genes.

Allie: I am so sorry about the mix-up, but clearly, this is chanel’s fault.

Roman: Chanel? How?

Allie: Well, she’s the one who baked the cake and she must’ve grabbed the wrong tube for the filling.

Julie: So this was just a baker’s mistake?

Allie: She was a little distracted because, well, I broke her heart and quit the bakery.

Marlena: You did what?

Roman: Allie said that is a story for another day.

Ben: I don’t understand how she could make a mistake like this when the filling was the only thing that was important.

Allie: I don’t know what to say.

Ciara: Okay, but you’ve seen the sonogram, right? So what was this supposed to be? Pink? Does that mean we are having a girl?

Belle: Look at what happened when I was born. I basically destroyed mom’s entire familY.

John: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Baby girl, you were a gift to us. Your mother and I, we loved each other desperately for so lonG. But shawn doesn’t love jan and she’s obsessed with him at besT.

Belle: [Scoffs] She thinks she loves him.

John: You know, I don’t give a damn about jan spears. And I don’t know what’s gonna happen with this baby, but I do know that you and shawn are gonna survive this. Sweetheart, love always prevails over evil, whether it takes the form of jan spears or the damn devil himself. Oh, baby girl.

[Delicate music]

Ben: Well?

Allie: Is this really how you want to find out?

Ciara: No, obviously not, but allie, we can’t just wait for you to make a whole other cake.

Ben: No, please, just tell us what we’re having.

Allie: Okay. We are having a boY. Well, you’re having a boy.

Ben: [Gasps] Boy?

Ciara: Boy.

Clyde: I knew it!

Julie: Oh, darlings, congratulationS.

Marlena: Oh, it’s wonderful.

Shawn: Oh, I can’t wait to meet my nephew.

Roman: Yeah, another brady maN.

Julie: Oh!

Allie: A boy. Just like I always wanted.
