THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[tense music]

[sighs] Mom, I told you I’d let you know if I heard from Sarah. Yeah, I’m not terribly optimistic we got through to her last night. She’s probably told Xander everything by now, meaning he knows the letter from Dad was forged and he knows that I’m the heir pretender. Oh, he knows how to aim a gun, too, meaning I’m just standing here waiting for my brother to come through this door and shoot me dead.

[tense music fading]

Except Philip has no right to that title.

[phone rings]

[sighs]

[phone rings] Hey, Abe, what’s up?

[suspenseful music]

What? Now Leo wants to send Rafe to Rochester, New York?

[sighs] You really think he can convince the bank to tell them who’s the name behind the Lady Whistleblower account?

Well, that’s good of Paulina to pay for it. Uh, I guess fingers crossed. Talk to you later.

Why is Paulina footing the bill for this? Leo wants that information so badly, why doesn’t he fork over some of that head writer money of his?

Sorry, Rafe’s not here.

Oh.

Is it important?

Kind of. I was hoping to talk to him about that case I hired him for.

Ah, the hunt for Lady Whistleblower.

That’s the one. You know where he is?

No clue. And I guess he’s really busy with his new job, ’cause he sure hasn’t been around here that much lately.

[mysterious music]

When Paulina fired you, you threatened me. You said, and I quote, that “I wouldn’t get away with it.” Did you do something to Rafe as payback?

[scoffs and chuckles] That is a ludicrous accusation.

Right, right. Because you don’t have a vengeful bone in your body. Look, I’m not playing games, EJ. If you know where Rafe is, you need to tell me.

Look, I’m terribly sorry your betrothed has fled to parts unknown, but I can’t help you.

[tense music]

That’s how you want to play this? OK, fine. If you don’t want to answer questions here, we can do this down at the station. Let’s go.

Yeah, I’m not going anywhere with you.

Do I need to remind you that I’m the police commissioner?

Do I need to remind you that despite your campaign to get me fired, I’m still an attorney? And I know that you cannot take me into custody without a warrant. Seeing as you obviously don’t have one, you can get the hell out of my house.

[Jada gasps softly]

Rafe? What–

[Rafe gasps]

What the hell is going on here?

[soft orchestration]

announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Well, nothing’s going on, Jada. What are you doing here?

Looking for you, that’s what! I’ve been trying to reach you since you went on this whole undercover mission.

Jada, you do know how undercover works, correct?

And I talked to Steve and he said he didn’t send you on a case at all, undercover or otherwise.

[tense music] What are you up to with my fiancé?

I’m not sure what you’re implying.

I’m not implying. I’m accusing. Like I said before, on New Year’s Eve, you knew all about this call that Steve supposedly made, and I inferred that you had something to do with all of this. And obviously I was right, because now, my fiancé is emerging out of the walls of your house!

Is somebody going to explain?

Well, if you would just slow down and let me get a word in edgewise–

All right, EJ, that’s enough. It’s–OK, look. Jada’s found out, and it’s time to tell– tell you the truth.

Got to go, Mom. It was nice knowing you.

[ominous music] Xander. Hey.

Good morning, Philip. I, uh, have something for you.

Croissant. From Sweet Bits.

[soft mysterious music]

Not poisoned, is it?

Well, that wouldn’t make it a very good peace offering, would it? Which is exactly what this is.

I’m very happy that I caught you before you left for work.

Me, too. So how did Xander take it when he told him about Philip’s letter from Victor, that it was a forgery? Is he happy to have his whole fortune back? Is he furiously plotting Philip’s murder? Both?

Neither. Because I–I didn’t tell him.

What? Why not?

Well, because I wanted to talk to Philip first. Not because I didn’t believe you, but just I wanted to hear the full story from him and see if there were any extenuating circumstances that might stop Xander from igniting World War III.

And was there?

[soft suspenseful music]

I wish. Kate was with Philip when I got there, and they double-teamed me and they pressed their case that even though this letter was a forgery, it was somewhat truthful that– that this is something that Victor would have wanted and Philip would have had this job had he not been dealing with mental illness at the time.

And?

And, well–

[sighs]

Given that I have dealt with similar circumstances and other factors… I don’t know, I came around to their point of view.

I decided to keep Philip’s secret.

Gabi, we meet again.

Kerry, aren’t you cold? You look like you could use another layer.

No, I’m good. I gave Javi my sweatshirt before I left.

Aw. A forget-me-not?

He’ll look hot in it.

[both chuckle]

Speaking of my erstwhile assistant, chances are good you’ll see him before I do. Could you tell him that I left a binder of possible caterers for Rafe and Jada’s wedding at the PD with JJ Deveraux?

Yeah, sure. Javi’s really taking to this whole event planning thing, isn’t he?

Yeah. You know, I’d love it if he was just as into his paying gig with me.

[chuckles]

But he has a tendency to get obsessive about these types of projects.

Yeah, one of the things I love about him.

Mm. Seems like you two are getting closer by the day.

Yeah, yeah. Things are great.

Do I sense a “but” coming?

Mm, close. More like an ass named Leo Stark.

[soft suspenseful music]

Well, I suppose I should take off. Hey, um, have we been friends long enough for me to ask you a favor?

We’re good, Leo. Just lay it on me.

Will you let Rafe know I stopped by?

Sure. I just don’t know when that’s gonna be, though.

I hope it’s soon. I have some new information that might blow Lady Whistleblower right out of the water, and I need him to take a road trip.

So you’re getting closer to finding out her identity?

For sure. Our show’s publicist, Stephanie Johnson, she figured out where Lady Whistleblower might be from.

[mysterious music]

OK, Jada. Confession time.

Rafe.

The truth is… Steve Johnson didn’t send me on a case.

I did.

What?

Rafe has been working for me this entire time.

Yeah.

You working for him? Doing what?

[suspenseful jazz music]

[sighs] Uh… finding Sloan Petersen. She never paid for what she did, kidnapping Jude and all the rest. It’s an outrage that she still walks free. Justice delayed is justice denied.

Eric’s the one who needs justice for the lost time with Jude. As for you, I figured you’d let sleeping babies lie, especially after all the underhanded stuff you pulled.

Well, I don’t have much else to do with my time now, do I? And I have you to thank for that one. And don’t dismiss my need for justice so easily. Sloan made a fool of me, blew up my entire life, and got away scot-free. So I hired the best detective available, Rafe Hernandez.

If that’s true, why didn’t you just tell me in the first place?

[Rafe sighs] Why’d you lie to me?

[Rafe sighs]

So you’re just– you’re just going to lie to Xander?

I–it’s a lie by omission.

Yeah. But still, I never thought that you would keep Philip’s forgery from him. That’s huge.

I know. I-I do know. And it’s not– it’s not just because I feel bad for Philip. I told you last night that the idea of Xander having all this unchecked power makes me– it makes me very uneasy. I mean, yesterday, he came home just fuming from work. It turns out that Philip stopped him from pulling the trigger on this crazy idea to take over DiMera.

A hostile takeover of DiMera? Speaking from experience, that is a seriously bad idea.

Yes, of course it is. And Philip tried to tell him just how bad it could be. He’s worried that it could ignite this feud between the families again. And– and he specifically didn’t want you to get stuck in the crossfire or anyone else, for that matter.

I see.

And look, I– I know that Philip isn’t exactly known for being levelheaded or have particularly good business ethics. But as it stands right now, Xander has to go through Philip before he can do anything impulsive. And that can only be good for Xander, for Philip, and for Titan. And good for our family.

[tense somber music]

So Philip is a roadblock?

It’s just he’s more of a way to slow Xander down. To listen to the better angels of his nature. Steph, the first thing you asked me when I came in here was whether or not Xander had murdered Phillip yet. And I really wouldn’t put it past him to lash out if he found out what Phillip did.

This whole situation has just been fraught for him from the moment that Victor’s will was found.

Fraught all the way around.

So you agree? That–that this is the right decision?

[sighs] It doesn’t really matter what I think.

No, it does, Steph. It does matter what you think. Because I am asking you to keep this secret, too. And if you don’t, it doesn’t matter what I think.

Will you do that?

[tense somber music fading]

A peace offering?

Yes.

[soft dramatic music]

Why?

Well–

[sighs] Last night, Maggie and I had a bit of a heart-to-heart. She made the rather persuasive argument that our father would want us to try to work together. For the sake of Titan, if nothing else. After all, if you didn’t think you could handle the responsibility, then, well, he wouldn’t have written that letter in the first place, would he? So… I’ve decided to try and work in harmony with you. In the hopes that you will do the same.

That’s it?

I thought that was it right before I got here, but now I’m not so sure.

[suspenseful music]

What–what do you mean?

Well, I overheard you talking to your mom on the phone just now. What was that you were saying about my wanting to kill you? When I walked in, all the color drained out of your face and then you looked like you were bracing yourself for me to pull out a revolver when I produced these croissants. So tell me, Philip, what am I missing?

This can’t be a mystery to you, Xander. I was just telling my mother about how I kind of spoiled your DiMera takeover plan.

“Kind of”?

I’m really not justified in being worried about what you were packing, given recent history?

[sighs] My emotions were running rather high in the moment you’re referring to. And I regret what I did. But I assure you it’d take more than just a simple business dispute for me to fly into a psychotic rage.

[soft dramatic music]

Well, that’s a relief.

Look, I want this arrangement to work. In fact, I need it to work. Let’s face it. We’re stuck in this together, forever.

Right.

I mean, am I happy that you blocked my grand plan? No. But, uh, it’d probably interest you to know that… Sarah thought you were right to do it.

Wow. Really?

She is the voice of reason in our relationship.

[chuckles] Even if I sometimes need a swift kick to remind me to listen. But I trust her instincts implicitly. So maybe this was all for the best. Now you tell me, are you on board with making this work? No more machinations, scheming, backbiting. Just a true 50/50 partnership.

Before I make any promises, I think I have to come clean.

Come clean about what?

I’m sorry. We got off to a rocky start. But that’s not what I’m most sorry about.

So you want me to keep quiet about what Philip did, too?

I am so sorry to put you in the middle of this.

You didn’t. I walked into the middle of it when I overheard Philip on the phone with his mom talking about the letter being a forgery.

[soft suspenseful music] Look, I’m furious with Philip for using me to help perpetrate this fraud. So if I’m being honest, if I keep continuing to keep this secret… I would feel like a witting accomplice.

I understand. And–

Hold on. I’m not done.

OK.

Despite all of that… I do not want to be responsible for sending Philip to prison. Or worse.

Xander and his temper.

If he commits bodily harm on Philip when he finds out the truth, I won’t be able to ignore my part in it. So whatever I think personally…

You’re Xander’s wife, meaning I’m going to defer to your wishes. I won’t say anything.

To Lady Whistleblower going down. And not in the good way.

Mm. From your lips to Billy Porter’s ears.

Hey, maybe Rafe can break open the case for you. I know how much this whole thing has been weighing on you.

[Leo sighs]

You know, I was kind of hoping you wouldn’t be here this morning.

[scoffs] Why?

Well, I just mean, you know, it’s probably the last thing you want to hear about after, well, you know.

No, I want to know who Lady Whistleblower is almost as much as you do at this point.

You do?

Yeah. And not only for my own, you know, vindication. But I read her latest column, and it was a low blow, even for her. I mean, she’s loving being cruel to you. And whoever she is, I hope that somebody murders her in print just like the way she’s doing you.

[chuckling] Javi. Thank you for saying that. After everything that happened, that really means a lot.

[soft upbeat music]

Hmm, not a fan of Leo Stark, huh?

[sighs] That would be a no.

Neither am I. Neither is anyone.

Well, except your cousin.

What? No. Leo accused him of being Lady Whistleblower. Javi hates him for it.

Mm. Past tense. Apparently, they’ve decided new year, new beginning, and now they’re friends.

Oh, Javi, just no.

Mm. Exactly. I don’t trust that guy. And I don’t like that guy.

What exactly are you afraid Leo is going to do?

Well, I know the two of them had this thing, and I hear Leo has the habit of making passes at anything that moves. So he’s probably already trying to snake his way back into Javi’s bed.

Mm. Over my dead body.

Hmm.

Well–

Jada, sweetheart, I am really sorry to have upset you, OK? I am. It’s just– I mean, I hated going behind your back. I really did. But it’s– it’s EJ, you know, he said we had to keep this whole thing on the DL.

Even from me?

Well–

[sighs] You are the police commissioner.

Uh, so? What, does this mean that you’re interfering with a police investigation again?

No, no, no. It’s–no, it’s just, you know, EJ’s not exactly a fan of yours. No, I mean, like, we are not fans of his either, you know?

[soft suspenseful music]

That can’t be all of it.

Did you ask him to do something illegal?

No, no. Nothing like that at all, OK? But I–see, I– I’m trying to build my reputation as a PI, right? You know, uh… I’m new at Black Patch. And so I have got to prove myself to Steve, to John.

But Steve didn’t even know about this.

That’s right. That’s right, yes, because I didn’t want to say anything to anyone until I had a solid lead. Yeah. So I didn’t.

Sloan is– look, she’s stealthy, and the trail may have gone cold. Coming up empty would not exactly enhance Rafe’s professional standing, would it?

No, no. Not at all.

OK, Rafe. So where have you been looking for Sloan? Hmm? In the DiMera secret room?

So–what? What are you– what are you talking about?

I’m talking about you haven’t come home since New Year’s. You’ve obviously been hiding out here. Why?

[tense music]

But I haven’t been here. See, I was out of town chasing down a lead. A dead end, unfortunately.

That’s too bad.

Yeah. Yeah, and I just got back into town a few minutes ago to give EJ the report. And the reason I was coming through there is because I was going through the tunnels because I didn’t want anyone to see me coming or going at the front door.

Right, because he wants you to keep it on the DL. OK.

Yeah, well, he does. And believe me, I would not want to get into bed with EJ. Figuratively speaking, if I didn’t have to. But I am charging him a small fortune, which, trust me, is going to come in handy when I give you the wedding gift that I am determined to give you.

What?

[scoffs] Rafe, this is so not necessary.

Oh, it is. It is, you know, because– because I need to treat you like the queen that you are.

Oof, I’m starting to feel a little third wheel-ish here.

Ah, sorry, boss.

[EJ chuckles]

Well, this is quite the story.

Yeah. I know–

[sighs] It is, it is. And, uh, yeah, it’s– so.

[suspenseful jazz music] But you believe me, right?

You know what?

What?

You should write a guest gossip column on “The Spectator” once Rafe finds that Lady W impostor and you can out this vicious hag and torch her in print.

[laughs] The fantasy of doing that, that is what’s keeping me going.

[Javi chuckles] And a steady diet of caffeine.

Uh, do you want some more coffee?

Mm-hmm. Yes, please.

[notification chimes]

[suspenseful jazz music]

Oh, come on.

Something wrong?

Abe thinks the exit story I wrote for Faith is unoriginal.

[scoffs] Seriously? I mean, Chanel quits out of the blue. What does he expect on such short notice?

I’m sorry. I made this extra strong, Cubano-style.

Thanks. I’m gonna need it to have to do with this.

How Kerry rolled out of bed this morning on a cup of herbal tea, I’ll never understand.

Oh, he spent the night?

Yeah. Um, I probably shouldn’t have mentioned that.

No, no, I mean, we’re friends, right? And you should be able to tell me about your love life, and I should be able to tell you about my love life if I ever get one again. Um… but I am happy, Javi, that you found somebody. Truly.

What was that thing you said to me before? Thanks, it means a lot?

[soft dramatic music]

What do you have to be sorry for, Philip? What did you do?

It’s nothing I did. It’s what my father– excuse me, our father did. I’m sorry he kept the truth from you all those years, that he didn’t tell you that you were his son.

That’s hardly your fault.

But I know he abused the hell out of you, made you haul manure, generally treated you like crap on the bottom of his shoe. Meanwhile, you probably think I had the best of upbringings, the perfect childhood.

[sighs] Didn’t you?

God, no.

[soft somber music] Dad had a stroke when I was a little kid, and he wasn’t around most of the time when I was growing up. Then when he got better, he went overboard trying to make up for it. He was like the OG helicopter parent.

[Xander chuckles softly]

Trying to picture Victor Kiriakis at a parent-teacher conference.

[Philip chuckles softly]

He was such a control freak. He thought he could mold me in his image. Didn’t quite take. I’m telling you, Xander, I was a disappointment to him in so many ways.

Get in line. I was the biggest disappointment of all.

He treated you that way because you’re the one who was most like him. He saw that.

But as for me…

He died before I could show him that I was getting my act together. But he’s still watching. I feel it.

This is my chance to finally prove myself to him.

Same.

Wonder how different things would be now if I had known you were my brother from the start.

So do I.

[soft dramatic music]

I feel like maybe I should be worried about how uncharacteristically understanding you’re being.

[chuckles] What can I say? I’m trying my best because I promised Maggie and my wife.

Well, whatever the reason, I appreciate the peace offering.

[peaceful music]

Want to break bread with me?

Thanks. I gave you the bigger piece.

[sighs] Thank you so much, Stephanie.

It’s OK. I just– Sarah, I hope you’ve thought this through.

[soft suspenseful music] I mean, Xander’s being cheated out of 50% of his inheritance, and you’re keeping that from him.

I know. I do. I know. I really– I don’t like it either. But I really do feel like this is the right thing to do. For all of us.

What if the truth comes out down the line? What if Xander finds out you’ve been lying to him?

[Sarah sighs]

It’s just a gamble I have to take.

Yes, I believe you, Rafe. I get that you wanted to surprise me.

That’s all I wanted to do.

[soft dramatic music]

OK. But next time, can you not scare the hell out of me? I mean, my God, I was afraid that something terrible had happened to you.

I am so sorry. I’m so sorry. Honest.

Tell her, EJ.

He’s sorry, all right.

OK. But there’s something that you still haven’t explained.

Yeah?

The other day when you texted me, you signed off with “XOXO.” And you never do that. So why’d you do it? It wasn’t to throw me off scent. So–

So, uh, yes. I guess I was just so overcome with love for my future wife.

I mean, would you prefer that I send you a heart emoji next time?

[Jada chuckles]

Either is fine.

OK.

It just didn’t seem like you.

Baby.

[both chuckle]

[phone buzzes]

Wait, hold on. Oh, I got to get back to the station.

Well, all right. Well, uh, I got to stay here because EJ is gonna write me a big, fat check, and I don’t want to give him an excuse to stiff me.

Mm. Don’t worry me like that again, OK?

OK, honey bear.

Uh, if you– um, if you want that check, we need to settle up now. I’ve got somewhere to be, so.

OK.

[soft suspenseful music] XOXO.

[Jada chuckles softly]

Right back at you.

See you, baby.

[door closes] That was close.

Oh, too close.

[EJ clears throat]

My ex, Will, is raising our daughter, Arianna, with his partner, Sonny, which is going great, No thanks to Leo. He pulled out all the stops to mess things up for them. Suffice it to say, it was selfish and it was ugly.

So don’t like Leo any more than I do?

Mm, an understatement. I will never forgive him for how he hurt them. And I don’t want him near my family ever again.

In other words, he’s not invited Chez Hernandez for a sleepover.

No, actually, that would be OK. Because then it would give me a chance to smother him in his sleep.

[chuckles] Which would be pretty daring since the police commissioner is right down the hall.

[both chuckle] But if you need help with a cover-up, I’m your man.

Oh. And if you ever need help keeping him away from Javi, I’m your girl.

Mm, I might take you up on that.

[chuckles] You know what? I’m glad I ran into you.

Me, too. Well, I’d better get to the office since my assistant is otherwise engaged.

May Leo Stark disappear from both our lives.

Hear, hear.

[chuckles]

I’ll see you around.

Oh, I should probably get going. I don’t want to overstay my welcome.

You’re not.

Thanks, but I have a ton of work to do.

Oh, right. I guess you have to rewrite Faith’s exit.

Oh, I’m not rewriting that.

[Javi chuckles] But these six shows a week are not going to write themselves.

Well, I will tell Rafe you stopped by.

Thanks. See you around?

Yeah, for sure. And, uh, I hope you unmask Lady Whistleblower.

[tense music]

Philip. Hey, um, where’s Xander?

He went to the break room.

Oh, OK. Um, hey, look. I, uh, I didn’t say anything to him.

I figured. He and I just talked things out.

OK. And also, I saw Stephanie and I explained my reasoning to her and she is not gonna say anything either.

That’s good to know.

There’s one caveat. It is a huge, huge deal to me that I am keeping my mouth shut. So you have to work with Xander. You can’t work against him. You can’t constantly be a thorn in his side or the deal is off. Is that understood?

Understood. And, Sarah, I know I don’t deserve this, but thank you so much. I owe you big-time.

[tense music]

Owe her for what?

[tense music]

Xander, baby.

[both smooch] Um, I was just telling Philip that… I was encouraging you to get along with him and he was saying that things were going very well. And so, yeah, I truly believe that this partnership will work.

Honestly, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but, um, I agree.

[Sarah chuckles]

Makes three of us.

OK, wait a minute. Hold up, girl. You and Philip broke up?

Yeah. It’s over between us.

Oh, Steph, I am so sorry.

It’s no big deal. We were only together for a minute. This time.

Yeah.

Anyway, I figured I would let you know that I will not be bringing a plus-one to the wedding. Gorgeous invite, by the way.

Oh, thank you. I’ll let Rafe’s cousin Javi know. He took over planning.

Aw.

But anyway, all that is so beside the point right now.

Look, it’s no big deal, believe me.

OK.

More details to come on that when, you know, we’re not so slammed.

Right. But, Steph, if you want to bring someone else, just let me know.

[inhales deeply] I think I’m good.

OK.

I’m just so happy for you and Rafe.

Ugh, now that I finally found him.

What does that mean? Was he missing?

Not exactly. I thought he was. Long story. Anyway, look–

[chuckles] He’s fine, he’s found, and, you know, the wedding is full steam ahead.

[Stephanie sighs] Yeah.

You–

[chuckles] Just about gave me a heart attack, chiming in to explain things to Jada.

Mm. But I did good, didn’t I?

Shockingly, yes.

Well, that’s because I’m not a total idiot. Now, about that check.

That check will come.

[suspenseful music] But I’ve taken to heart the argument you made earlier and your performance just now.

Yeah, what are you talking about?

I’m persuaded that you actually might be of some use to me as Rafe Hernandez.

Oh. I like the sound of that. And I get the sweet perk of that sweet–

Control your libido, Arnold. If you’re going to be Rafe Hernandez, I will not allow you to lay a finger, a lip, or any other body part on his fiancée.

Ugh, party pooper. Well, how am I supposed to do that?

[suspenseful jazz music]

I have an idea. I have an idea.

[phone ringing]

Kerry. Hey, I was just thinking about you.

Oh, really?

Yeah. And I, uh, love the sweatshirt you gave me. I’m wearing it right now, as a matter of fact.

Mm, yeah? Well, the next time I see you, I’m hoping you won’t be wearing that Or anything, for that matter.

[chuckles softly] Uh, that can be arranged.

[suspenseful music]

I cannot believe that I’m such an idiot. It was Javi after all.

[phone rings]

[Leo sighs] Abe? No, wait. Listen, I’m not rewriting Faith’s exit. That’s not what you’re calling about? Then what is it? No, I didn’t talk to Rafe, but it doesn’t matter. I don’t need him to go to Rochester anymore. I know who Lady Whistleblower is.

NOTE: As of November, 2024, CBS no longer puts in the character names, nor do they separate out each line. We may edit them if we ever get time…this will take extensive editing. Sorry!

[mellow instrumentals] This is gonna work. We’re gonna regain control of Forrester Creations. And they’re actually considering it? They’re receptive to your return? Well, Carter’s open to the idea. Did you convince the CEO? Hope and Brooke are merely an obstacle–that’s it. Yeah. It’s gonna be difficult, especially with Hope in Carter’s ear. A real uphill battle, if you ask me. Well, I’m ready for it. I’m not gonna lie. I’m surprised by Steffy’s willingness to be here, to answer to us. Yes. But looking at it from Steffy’s perspective, it does make sense. She’s clearly thought about the impact it would have on the company, what it would look like if there wasn’t a Forrester on the executive team. Okay. While that is a good point, what about the decisions that she made before she left– vetoing your ideas, insulting you and your line, firing me? She makes rash decisions based on personal feelings. You’re right–not to mention the choice words she had for us

before she left.

Exactly. Now, I have too much class to repeat the names that she called me here, but she did accuse me of manipulating Carter into turning against the Forresters. All I am saying… is how can we trust her? [heavy music plays] ♪ ♪ Tom Starr. Are you really Luna’s father? So predictable. BILL: Luna! Luna. Get up. Will’s at the gate. He can’t see you. [soft, dramatic music plays] ♪ ♪ Come on, come on–you know the conditions of your house arrest. No one can know you’re here. Move it!

Okay. Consider me not here.

Go, go! Go, go, go!

Hey!

Hey, Dad. There’s my boy. How you doing, son?

Good, uh…

Good.

How are you?

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

Javi makes breakfast at home. Gabi comes in and says it’s perfect but Javi says it’s not for her which Gabi questions as Kerry then comes out from the bedroom and joins Javi.

Abe and Paulina have breakfast at home until Leo shows up, saying he came to see Abe with an update on their show’s business. Leo informs Abe that he just e-mailed Faith’s exit story since Chanel quit, but he’s writing Hattie back in which means Abe has to rehire her but Abe says absolutely not.

JJ joins Shawn at the police station and says today is his first day back on the police force. Shawn reminds JJ of his suggestion that they be partners and Jada said it was a great idea. JJ says it sounds good to him, so Shawn welcomes him back to the police department.

Jada sits in her office, re-reading the text she got from Rafe’s phone. Jada tries calling Rafe, saying she’s worried about him and hopes he answers his phone.

EJ prepares to bring Rafe food in the tunnels when he is stopped by Rafe’s phone ringing with Jada’s call. EJ remarks that he’s sorry but he’s afraid Rafe is tied up at the moment as he ignores the call. EJ is then shocked to see Arnold Feniger emerging from the tunnels.

Abe tells Leo that he and Paulina would like to get back to their evening and gives him a hard no on bringing back Hattie to Body and Soul. Leo argues that he already wrote her return scene and explains it to Abe and Paulina. Leo informs them that Hattie and Bonnie made up. Paulina complains that Hattie cursed the show leading to the tainted cupcakes, Johnny and Chanel’s marriage being put in jeopardy, and now losing a star cast member. Leo argues that none of that was Hattie’s fault and the curse didn’t make Johnny cheat on his spouse. Abe reluctantly agrees. Leo adds that if they are to blame anyone, they need to blame Lady Whistleblower.

Gabi tells Kerry that Javi never stops talking about him, so she’s been looking forward to meeting him but she wasn’t expecting it to be in their kitchen over breakfast. Javi jokes about not asking for her permission. Gabi says a little discretion never hurts. Javi brings up JJ staying the night and gives her JJ’s money clip which he had left. Javi then gives her a list of potential menus to give to Jada when she goes to see JJ at the police station.

JJ tells Shawn that he heard he and Belle are splitting up and he’s really sorry. Shawn thanks him but says he’s just glad things ended amicably since they are working together. Shawn informs JJ that Belle is the new district attorney. JJ remarks that EJ getting fired couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

EJ tells Arnold that he nearly gave him a heart attack as he thought Rafe escaped. Arnold says he just snuck a little peek in on him. EJ questions what the hell Arnold is doing in his home and calls him a disobedient dolt as he was supposed to lie low. Arnold argues that he used the tunnels. EJ reminds him of his strict instruction to stay out of sight and asks again what he’s doing here.

Jada leaves a message for Rafe, saying she knows he’s busy but she’d like to hear his voice so she asks him to call her back.

Javi tells Kerry that he had a great time last night. Kerry says he’s fine with taking it slow and is just happy to be spending time with him. Kerry asks if he’s overstayed his welcome. Javi asks why he would think that. Kerry feels Gabi wasn’t too thrilled. Javi talks about Gabi being there with JJ the day before. Javi then gets an alert on his phone about Lady Whistleblower posting a new column, ripping Leo again. Kerry laughs at it but Javi feels it’s mean. Kerry talks about growing up watching Body and Soul and feeling like Leo ruined it.

Paulina questions Leo blaming Lady Whistleblower for the tainted cupcakes and Johnny going to Joy’s hotel room. Leo says she may not have caused those specific problems but many others. Leo talks about weaving every storyline in to one big document, but before he could submit it, Lady Whistleblower gave so much of it away that he had to trash the entire thing. Leo complains that now Lady Whistleblower is calling for him to be fired, but argues that they are only doing this because they are jealous of him going from the newspaper to a TV writer. Leo declares that he will stop Lady Whistleblower and sue them for defamation if he ever finds out who it is. Abe responds that he may have some news on that front.

Gabi goes to the police station and asks JJ how his first day is going. JJ says it’s better now and asks what brings her by. Gabi returns the money clip he left at her place. Gabi jokes about his detective skills since he didn’t even notice it was missing. JJ jokes that he could’ve left it on purpose as an excuse to come back. Gabi tells JJ to play his cards right and he might get invited back anyway.

Arnold complains to EJ that he had to get out of the motel because they only have three TV channels and he doesn’t have a data plan for his phone. EJ questions him coming out of hiding and risking them landing in prison because he was bored. Arnold remarks that variety is the spice of life. EJ warns that if he keeps this up, neither of them will have a life. Arnold asks why he’s so worked up. EJ complains that he has the former police commissioner locked up in the basement while the current police commissioner is breathing down his neck and calling Rafe’s phone every five minutes. Arnold asks what he’s going to do with Rafe anyways. EJ admits that Rafe did try to bargain with him and gave his word that he would keep his mouth shut if he let him go. EJ feels even if he could trust Rafe, he can’t trust Jada as she would leap at the chance to throw him in jail.

Shawn goes to Jada’s office. Jada tells him that she still can’t reach Rafe and her gut is telling her that something is off. Shawn asks about the evidence. Jada points out that Rafe never signs his messages “XOXO”, he said he’d be in touch but she hasn’t heard from him, and now her calls are going straight to voicemail. Shawn says if Rafe is on a case for Black Patch, she should call Steve as he might know how to reach him. Jada calls that a good idea and calls Steve.

Leo questions Abe having news on Lady Whistleblower. Abe informs him that he and Kate have been as furious as Leo is, so he put Stephanie on the case. Paulina says she apparently has a lead as Stephanie went to Chad about Lady Whistleblower’s identity. Abe explains that Chad doesn’t know who it is as they are being paid anonymously. Leo can’t believe Chad is okay with that. Paulina says that Stephanie convinced Chad that he has no obligation to protect them, so he looked in to it and found out Lady Whistleblower’s checks are being wired to a bank in Rochester, New York so there must be some connection. Leo calls this huge and says all they need to do is find them.

Kerry puts on his sweatshirt that say “I love Rochester” on the back and asks Javi to read him the rest of Lady Whistleblower’s column. Javi says he’d rather not as it’s mean and he doesn’t like the shots taken at Leo. Kerry can’t believe Javi feels bad for Leo after he accused him of being Lady Whistleblower. Javi states that Leo repeatedly apologized and they are friends now. Kerry still can’t understand why Javi would want to be friends with Leo. Javi jokingly asks if he’s jealous. Kerry asks if he has a reason to be.

JJ thanks Gabi again for bringing him his money clip. Gabi says she’ll let him get back to work. Gabi gives JJ the list of menus that Javi wanted to give to Jada for wedding planning.

Jada finishes her call with Steve and informs Shawn that Steve said he did not put Rafe on a case. Jada admits she’s starting to freak out. Shawn asks her to walk him through this. Jada recalls being at the DiMera Mansion for the New Year’s party when “Rafe” said Steve called and put him on an important case so he had to leave right away. Jada recalls that EJ was there and that it was EJ who mentioned the call. Shawn asks if she thinks EJ is involved in this.

EJ tells Arnold that if he’s so bored, he should take the money he offered him and head back to Argentina. Arnold says no because the summers there are brutal. EJ tells him that his only other option is to put up with bad television but Arnold says that’s not going to happen. Arnold questions why he would go back to that motel when he can stay at the DiMera Mansion. EJ reminds him that he can’t stay in Salem because if anyone sees him, they will assume he is Rafe. Arnold asks why that would be so bad.

Javi questions what reason Kerry would have to be jealous of he and Leo. Kerry argues that they looked pretty chummy when he ran in to them yesterday. Javi assures they are only friends. Kerry is sure Leo wants to be more. Javi says it doesn’t matter since he’s with Kerry now. Kerry complains that Leo is still going to be around and feels that Javi should hate Leo for what he did. Javi talks about not holding grudges in the new year. Kerry says he just doesn’t see the appeal of Leo. Kerry says they had one encounter and it was a total disaster. Javi remarks that some people have chemistry and some don’t. Kerry says he’ll show him chemistry as they kiss.

Leo tells Abe and Paulina about his excitement of the lead. Leo says he’ll get Rafe on this lead and send him to Rochester to find out who opened the bank account. Abe questions who Leo thinks is going to pay for the trip when Body and Soul barely have a budget. Paulina decides she will pay for it. Abe says she doesn’t have to but Paulina insists that she wants to. Paulina declares that she won’t let Abe’s show be attacked. Paulina adds that if Rafe is busy on this case, maybe it will keep him out of Jada’s cases.

JJ goes over the list of menus and says he had no idea there was this many caterers in Salem. Gabi comments on Jada and Rafe getting married in like two weeks and admits that Javi is doing a great job. Shawn comes back from Jada’s office. Gabi says she’ll get out of there hair and bring the menus to Jada, but Shawn informs her that Jada is not there.

EJ questions Arnold suggesting he impersonate Rafe. Arnold argues that he’s good at it and it would keep him out of the motel. Arnold feels him pretending to be Rafe would help EJ because Jada is clearly a problem, so he would throw her off the scent until EJ figures out what to do with Rafe. Arnold tries to convince EJ until the doorbell rings. EJ tells Arnold that he needs to get out of here but Arnold insists he can’t go back. EJ then gives Arnold the food tray and orders him to quietly bring it down to Rafe. EJ then goes to answer the door to see Jada, who says they need to talk. EJ says he’s terribly busy looking through the want ads because someone got him fired, so the answer is no. Jada responds that it wasn’t a question and walks in to the living room. EJ repeats that it’s not a good time and tells her to make it quick. Jada informs EJ that she just spoke with Steve, who said he didn’t send Rafe on a case, so she questions why EJ said he did. EJ states that he was there when Rafe took the call, but Jada doesn’t believe him.

Javi and Kerry continue kissing until Javi asks what happened to taking it slow. Kerry says he felt Javi wanted to ditch that plan and asks if he’s not in to this. Javi assures that he is in to it. Kerry asks why he stopped then. Javi says he just doesn’t want to make the same mistake with him that he made with Leo, as he rushed in to things and got hurt. Javi says he doesn’t want to rush things with Kerry when he’s starting to care about him. Kerry says he just wants them to be happy. Javi says he wants the same. Kerry says they will go at whatever pace he’s comfortable with. Kerry says he has to get to work. Javi suggests he stay and help him with wedding planning. Kerry says he has a lot to do but he will call him later. Kerry leaves Javi with his “I love Rochester” sweatshirt and says he can wear it and think about him, so Javi puts it on.

Leo says he will talk to Rafe and get the ball rolling on Rochester. Leo stops to ask Abe if there’s any wiggle room on rehiring Hattie. Leo gets the reluctance but assures that this time, Hattie will be a professional and the fans will love it. Abe agrees to run it past Kate. Leo calls them the best and then exits. Paulina calls Abe a good man. Abe says he got rid of Leo so they can get back to their breakfast, then realizes that Leo stole his bacon.

Gabi asks where Jada went. Shawn says she went out on some case. Gabi guesses she’ll just leave the menus for her then. Shawn says he’ll make sure she gets it. Gabi tells JJ that she will see him later and exits the station. Shawn asks JJ about he and Gabi. JJ says they are exploring possibilities and asks Shawn if everything is okay as he sensed that Shawn didn’t want to go in to details on Jada’s case in front of Gabi. Shawn admits he didn’t, because it’s about Rafe.

Jada thinks EJ knows where Rafe really is. EJ questions what would give her that idea. Jada feels he was acting very strange with her at the New Year’s party and with Rafe too. Jada says EJ is the only one that knows something about this case that Steve supposedly sent Rafe on which means he probably knows about where he is. EJ responds that if he wanted to go away and never be found, claiming he received a last minute open ended top secret mission would be a pretty good cover. EJ suggests maybe Rafe got cold feet. Jada asks if he thinks insulting her will make her leave and says there’s no chance. Jada tells EJ that she knows he knows something and demands to hear it now.

Abe calls Kate and tells her that Leo came by to share an idea he had for the show, so he agreed to run it by her. Abe reveals that Leo wants to bring Hattie back. Kate is upset by it so Abe suggests they table this and talk about it in person. Abe tells Kate that he does have some good news as they are very close to catching Lady Whistleblower once and for all.

Leo goes to the Hernandez home where Javi answers the door. Leo tells him that he needs to see Rafe.

Shawn informs JJ that Steve told Jada he did not send Rafe on a case. JJ calls that weird and asks what Jada’s next move is. Shawn reveals that she went to see EJ because she thinks he’s involved in this.

Jada brings up EJ threatening that she wouldn’t get away with having him fired and questions if he went after Rafe as payback. EJ calls that a preposterous accusation. Jada says he needs to tell her if he knows where Rafe is. EJ insists that he can’t help her. Jada decides they can do this at the police station then. EJ says he’s not going anywhere with her. Jada reminds him that she’s the police commissioner. EJ points out that she can’t take him in to custody without a warrant, so she can get the hell out of his house. Arnold then emerges from the tunnels, interrupting Jada and EJ.

[whistling]

Oh, perfect timing. I’m starved.

Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah. This isn’t for you.

Then who’s it for?

That would be me.

[bright music]

Mm. Nice and crispy.

Mm-hmm, just the way you like it, darling.

[knocking]

Mm.

Ah, ah, ah, ah! No, no, no, no, no. No, you eat. Come in. The door’s open.

Madam Mayor.

Oh, well, Leo, what are you doing here?

I came to see Abe. Ooh, is that bacon? Oh, nice and crispy. Just the way I like it. Mm.

I was going to eat that.

With your cholesterol? That is a terrible idea. Might I suggest fakon? It’s a heart-healthy–

I’m the one with the high cholesterol.

Oh.

You said you came to see me.

Mm-hmm. I have an update on some show business. I mean, not show business as in Hollywood show business, show business as in our show’s business, “Body & Soul’s” business.

Faster, faster.

OK, so I just emailed you Faith’s exit story since, sadly but understandably, Chanel quit. But when one door closes, another door opens, which is why I’m bringing Charlemagne back from the dead. I just wanted to run that past you since it means we’re going to have to rehire Hattie, but you’re totally cool with that, right?

Absolutely not.

[soft dramatic music]

Hey, Shawn.

Oh, JJ. Good to see you. I heard you were back on the force.

Yeah, today’s my first day.

Wow, that’s great. Look, I don’t know if you remember, but on Christmas Eve, I said that if you did decide to take the job, I was thinking that we could work together. I spoke to Jada, and she thought it was a great idea.

That sounds good to me.

That’s awesome. Well, welcome back to the Salem PD, partner.

[sighs]

[phone beeps] I’m worried about you, Rafe. Please answer your phone.

[phone ringing]

[groans] For God’s sake, not again. I’m sorry, Jada, but I’m afraid Rafe’s tied up at the moment.

[laughs]

[soft orchestration]

announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

So if there’s nothing else, my wife and I would like to get back to our meal.

Well, just so we’re clear, that was a no on Hattie?

Hard no.

Understood. Pardon the interruption.

Bye, Leo.

Oh, but the thing is, I already wrote the scene where Charlemagne comes back, and it is to die for, which is ironic because it’s a resurrection scene. A glorious one at that.

Forget it.

Oh, please, please, please, please, just hear me out. It is Kassandra and Rhett’s wedding. And everyone who’s anyone in Pineview has gathered together to watch this happy couple come together in holy matrimony. They are about to say their I dos when, collective gasp…

[gasps] The doors fly open. In comes Charlemagne with her big hair, her shoulder pads, after she’s been held captive in an Amazon jungle for the past three months. But wait, there’s more. Charlemagne is pregnant with Rhett’s baby!

And how is that possible?

Dr. Blake Lamoray implanted her with one of Kassandra and Rhett’s embryos in a groundbreaking medical procedure.

How did Charlemagne get to the Amazon jungle after she fell down an elevator shaft?

Tunnels, tunnels. Very long tunnels. Look, this is going to drive story for months. Besides, I already told Hattie it was a done deal.

What? Have you forgotten why we got rid of her in the first place?

Well, the thing is, Bonnie, this was her idea. She was the one who wanted to write Charlemagne back in.

I thought those two hated each other.

Oh, they made up. See, Hattie apologized for going all diva. She says she’s learned from her mistakes and swears she won’t do anything like that again.

Hmm, that’s not all she did. She cursed the show! Abe, he was laid up for days after he ate one of those tainted cupcakes, and there was a disaster with Johnny and Chanel.

Which led Chanel to quit, put their marriage in jeopardy. And we lost a major character.

And now you want that woman– you want to give her a chance to wreak more havoc?

None of that was Hattie’s fault. She swears she had nothing to do with the cupcakes. And as far as the curse, it was petty and spiteful, but it didn’t make Johnny cheat on his spouse.

I have to agree with Leo.

Thank you. Look, if we want to blame anyone for the show’s problems, we need to blame Lady Whistleblower.

[dramatic music]

Mm, you must be the famous Kerry Youmins.

Am I famous?

Around here you are. Javi never stops talking about you.

And this is my cousin, Gabi. She’s famous for her big mouth.

Aw, don’t be embarrassed. I think it’s cute the way you gush.

So do I. I don’t believe I’ve ever been gushed over before.

OK, don’t let it go to your head.

Well, after the many, many nice things I’ve heard about you, Kerry, I’ve really been looking forward to meeting you. I wasn’t expecting it to be in our kitchen over breakfast.

Well, what does that mean?

Just that I didn’t realize you invited Kerry to spend the night.

Oh, I’m sorry, Mom. Was I supposed to ask your permission? Maybe you want to chaperone our next date.

Oh, please. I’m just saying, a little discretion never hurts.

Oh. Speaking of discretion, JJ left this here yesterday after he spent the night.

How do you know that’s JJ’s?

The engraved initials gave it away.

Oh. Well, I will swing by the station to give it to him.

Oh, great. These are the menus from all the potential wedding caterers in town. Would you give this to Jada?

Aren’t you supposed to be my assistant?

Yeah, you gave me the day off, remember?

I’ll go grab my coat.

Gracias, prima.

[speaking Spanish]

[bell dings]

Shawn, I– I heard you and Belle are splitting up. I’m really sorry.

Yeah, thank you. I’m just glad that things ended amicably, I mean, considering we’re working together.

What do you mean?

I guess you didn’t hear. Belle’s the new DA. EJ got fired.

Well, the last part I did hear. Like I said to Gabi, it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.

Feniger? Is that you?

Uh, yeah. Who else would I be? Right, OK. Yeah.

When you came through that door, you nearly gave me a heart attack. I thought Hernandez had escaped.

[laughs] Nope, nope. He’s still trussed up like a Christmas turkey down there. I just– I snuck a little peek in on him.

Oh, well, that’s a relief. But I do have one question for you. What the hell are you doing in my home?

Whoa, dude. Chill.

No, you disobedient dolt, I will not chill. You were supposed to lie low.

I did. I used the tunnels.

I don’t care what you used. You are under strict instructions to stay out of sight. Now, once again, what the hell are you doing here?

Wow.

– Hey, Rafe, it’s me again. Look, I know you’re busy, but I still haven’t heard from you, and I’d just really like to hear your voice. So call me back when you get this, OK? I love you.

[phone beeps]

[sighs]

I had a great time last night.

Me too.

Even though we didn’t–

Javi, I’m fine with taking it slow. I’m just happy to be spending time with you.

Same.

But you do need to tell me if I’ve overstayed my welcome.

Why would you think that?

I’ve been here since lunchtime yesterday, and your cousin didn’t seem too thrilled that I was here at breakfast.

Like Gabi’s one to talk. 24 hours ago, she was sitting right here, eating pancakes with the hottie she just rolled out of bed with.

Oh, the guy with the money clip?

Mm-hmm, wearing nothing but boxers and packing a big, old tennis racket. Mm, like an actual tennis racket.

[laughter] It’s a long story.

[phone beeps] Oh.

[soft dramatic music]

Hey, what’s wrong?

Just Lady Whistleblower posted a new column.

Does she have anything good?

Well, she’s ripping Leo’s soap again. “Another terrible episode of ‘Body & Soul.’ “And at this rate, Leo Stark might bury the show faster than he buried Charlemagne Delacroix.”

[laughs]

What?

That was funny.

No, it’s– no, it’s not. It’s mean. Like, if you don’t like the show, why would you not just stop watching it?

When you’ve been watching it for years, day in and day out, even decades, it’s not that simple. You’re invested. You care.

Right, because you grew up watching “Body & Soul,” and you think Leo ruined it.

Me and a million other people.

OK, I get being angry that a show you love isn’t good anymore, but why would you make a career out of criticizing it?

You criticize it because you love it and because you know how great it could be.

That makes no sense.

Well, it makes total sense to me. And to Lady Whistleblower, apparently.

You’re saying Lady Whistleblower tainted those cupcakes and convinced Johnny to go back to Joy’s hotel room?

Well, she may not have caused those problems specifically. But she has caused a tremendous amount of chaos by spoiling my stories and my personal life.

What? What was that?

I had to ditch my entire long story projection. Do you know how many hours I put into that? Not to mention my heart, my mind, my body and soul.

Leo.

I burned the midnight oil. I gave up on my beauty rest. I powered through on nothing but sheer will and gummy bears. But by God, I got it done. I managed to weave every single storyline into one big, beautiful document filled with romance, intrigue, a very steamy six-person shower scene. At last, my document was complete. But before I could even submit it, that she-devil stole it and gave so much of it away in “The Spectator” that I had to trash the whole thing. And did you see her latest column?

I did. But, Leo–

It’s not enough that she has completely upended our production. Now she’s calling on me to be fired, which, Abe, you cannot do because there is zero merit to anything that wannabe whistleblower has to say. You know why she’s doing this, right? She’s jealous because I went from being a newspaper man to being a television show head writer. And she’s jealous. She is trying to destroy me by bringing down the show. But guess what? I am not going to let that happen. I am going to stop her, and I am going to sue her for defamation, if I ever find out who she is.

Actually, I may have some news on that front.

How’s your first day going?

Better now. What brings you by?

I thought you could use some cash.

[sighs]

[laughs] You left it at my place.

Well, thank you.

Mm. I hope your detective skills aren’t rusty, considering you didn’t even realize it was missing.

Well, maybe I left it on purpose for an excuse to come back.

Oh. So it was all just a ruse?

Prefer to call it a tactical operation. Since you brought it here, I’d say the operation failed.

Well, who knows? Play your cards right, Deveraux, and you just might get invited back anyway.

I had to get out of that motel. You know, they’ve only got three TV channels.

Uh, you do realize you can watch videos on your phone?

Uh, you realize I don’t have a data plan because you try getting one of those when you’re supposed to be dead. And if I was to stay in that hotel, I would die for real– of boredom.

You’re– you’re bored? That’s why you came out of hiding? Why you’re risking being discovered and landing us both in prison?

Variety is the spice of life.

Oh, OK. Well, keep this up, and soon neither of us will have a life.

Why are you so on edge?

Oh, I don’t know. Maybe because I have the former police commissioner locked up in my basement. And his fiancée, the current police commissioner, is calling his phone every five minutes! And you coming out of the damn walls is the last thing I need.

[laughs] What are you going to do with Hernandez anyway? Huh? Are you going to make him a permanent houseguest?

Of course not. I’m not going to keep him down there forever. But he– he did try and bargain with me. He said he gave me his word that if I let him go, he’ll keep his mouth shut about all of it.

Well, Boy Scout like Hernandez, maybe he will.

I mean, even if I can trust him, I can’t trust Jada. She already got me fired. She’ll leap at the chance to throw me in jail.

[knocking]

You wanted to see me?

Shut the door.

What’s up?

It’s Rafe. I still can’t reach him.

Oh. Are you still worried he didn’t send that text?

Look– look, maybe I’m overreacting, OK? But my gut is telling me that something’s off.

All right, well, what’s the evidence telling you?

Well, for starters, he never signs off XOXO. He said he’d be in touch, but I haven’t heard from him. And now when I call him, his phone is going straight to voicemail.

Hmm. Wait, so– wait, he’s on a case for Black Patch, right?

Mm-hmm.

Well, call Steve. Call Steve. He might know how to reach him.

Good idea.

[dramatic music]

You have news on Lady Whistleblower?

I do.

Way to bury the lead. Why didn’t you say anything?

Well, if you let the man get a word in, maybe he would have.

Apologies, Abe. The floor is all yours.

Kate and I are as furious about this person as you are. So I put our publicist on the case.

Mm-hmm. He asked Stephanie to find out who’s writing these columns, and, apparently, she has a lead.

[gasps] What kind of lead?

Stephanie went to Chad and asked him to reveal Lady Whistleblower’s identity.

Now, he doesn’t know who she is, but she’s being paid anonymously.

Of course she is. I can’t believe my Chadwick is OK with that.

Mm-mm, not anymore. Stephanie convinced Chad that he is under no obligation to protect the identity of someone who is using his newspaper for the sole purpose of destroying our show. Chad, he looked into it and found out Lady Whistleblower’s checks are being wired to a bank in Rochester, New York.

[gasps] So she’s in Rochester?

Well, she’s being paid there, at least. Now, whether she’s from there or lives there, who knows?

Even if she’s living in Salem now, there’s obviously some connection.

[laughs]

Holy Bronte sisters, this is huge. Now all we have to do is find Mrs. Rochester.

Sorry. I was freezing

No, my cousin Rafe insists that we keep this place like an icebox.

[chuckles]

You want another cup of tea?

Mm-mm. That’s OK, doll. I’m good now.

You know, I must say that I could have kept you much warmer than that sweatshirt.

Mm-hmm?

But you do look cute in it.

[laughs] Thanks. It was actually my Secret Santa gift from my Aunt Florence. She thinks reminding me of Rochester will get me home more often. OK, well, now that I’m all toasty, tell me what else is in Lady Whistleblower’s column.

It’s just gossip.

Well, read it to me.

I’d rather not. Like I said, it’s mean. I don’t like the shots she takes at Leo.

I cannot believe you feel bad for that guy. I mean, he accused you of being the new Lady Whistleblower.

He repeatedly apologized. And we’re friends now. I thought you were OK with that.

I am, but I just don’t understand why you want to be friends with him.

Uh-oh. Is somebody jealous?

I mean, do I have a reason to be?

[soft dramatic music]

Thanks again for bringing this by.

Sure you don’t want to count it?

No, I trust you. If anything’s missing, I can always break out the cuffs.

You promise?

[laughter] I should let you get back to work.

I thought you were taking it easy this week?

I am. Thanks for reminding me. I brought something for Jada.

Gabi Chic?

Events by Javi.

Javi, your cousin?

He appointed himself Rafe and Jada’s wedding planner. He’d kill me if I forgot to leave this for the bride.

– Thanks, Steve. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I’m sure it was just a misunderstanding. OK, talk soon.

[phone beeps]

So what’d he say?

He said that he didn’t put Rafe on a case.

Oh, you’re kidding me.

[sighs] Shawn, I’m starting to freak out.

Hey, hey. It’s OK. Calm down. All right, just– all right, just take me back here and walk me through this, all right? So, all right, New Year’s Eve?

Yeah, we were at the DiMera party. And then Rafe found out that he had to leave right away on some big case for Black Patch. He said that Steve called him and put him on the assignment. We were in the foyer and–

What? And what?

And EJ was there. And, actually, Rafe wasn’t even the one who mentioned the call. It was EJ.

So you think EJ had something to do with this?

Well, if you’re so damn bored, why don’t you take the money I offered you and head back to Argentina?

Yeah, no can do. I already told you, summers down there are brutal.

Then your only other option is to put up with bad television.

Mm, yeah. Not going to happen.

I beg your pardon?

Yeah, see, like, why would I go back to that crappy motel when I can stay here in the lap of luxury?

For the last time, you halfwit, you cannot stay here or anywhere else in Salem, for that matter. Because if anyone sees you, they’re going to assume you are Rafe Fernandez.

Yeah. Why would that be so bad?

What reason would you have to be jealous of me and Leo?

You two looked pretty chummy when I ran into you yesterday.

Chummy as in friendly, as in friends, which is all we are.

Well, I’m sure Leo wants to be more.

It doesn’t matter what he wants. I’m with you now.

But if your friends, then he’s still going to be around.

Maybe. So what?

So why would you want him anywhere near you? I mean, you should hate him for what he did.

Oh, no. Hate is toxic. I don’t want to carry all of that around. And as I said to you, I’ve agreed to let bygones be bygones. Fresh start for the new year.

Well, that was very charitable of you.

Well, I’d like to think that Christina, Cher, and Gaga would do the same.

[chuckles] What? Not even a smile?

I’m sorry, but I just don’t see the appeal of Leo Stark. I mean, he and I had one encounter, and it was a total disaster.

Yeah, but that’s just how it is sometimes. Like, some people have chemistry, and some people don’t.

I’ll show you who’s got chemistry.

[tender music]

This news is what I would call a real lady-killer. Her column is done-zo.

Oh, now, come on. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. It’s just a lead, like Abe said.

So we follow that lead straight to Rochester. And by we, I mean Rafe. I’m going to have him get on the next flight. When he lands, he’s going to rent a car, an SUV with snow tires, obviously, seeing as it must be downright arctic there this time of year. He’ll drive straight to the bank and ask those tellers to tell him who opened up that Lady Whistleblower account.

And who do you suppose is going to pay for this trip?

“Body & Soul.”

We barely have the budget to keep the lights on, let alone for a private investigator.

Don’t you want to find out who’s sabotaging our show?

I do. But I can’t spend money I don’t have.

I’ll pay for it.

You will?

Paulina, Paulina, you don’t– you don’t have to do this.

Mm, I want to! I know all too well what it’s like being under attack by an unknown predator, someone who’s hellbent on destroying everything that you’ve worked for. I am not going to let that happen to my husband’s show. Plus, if Rafe is busy on your case, maybe it’ll keep him the heck out of Jada’s.

[soft dramatic music]

I had no idea there were this many caterers in Salem.

There are a lot of weddings here.

All this food looks so good. How are they supposed to choose?

I don’t know, but they need to do it fast. They’re getting married in, like, two weeks.

Well, it’s nice that Javi’s pitching in.

Yeah, you know, when Jada agreed to let him help, I wasn’t sure how it was going to go, but I gotta give it to my cuz. He’s doing a great job.

Oh, Gabi.

Shawn, hey. I was just borrowing your partner for a few minutes. I’ll get out of your hair. I have to bring this to Jada anyway.

Jada’s not here.

Oh. Where is she?

You’re not actually proposing that you impersonate Rafe Hernandez?

Why not? You know, in case you haven’t noticed, I am pretty good at it. And it would keep me from being cooped up in that rat trap.

Oh, I’d think you’d enjoy being surrounded by your own kind.

Listen, me pretending to be Hernandez would actually help you out, too, you know.

[chuckles] How do you figure that?

Well, because this Jada chick is clearly a problem. So when Rafe comes back, I’ll throw her off the scent a little.

Or waft it under her nose.

It’s not going to be forever. Just till you figure out what to do with Hernandez. All right? What do you say? Come on.

[doorbell chimes] Do it. You want me to get that?

Are you out of your mind? You need to get out of here.

I told you, I am not going back to that rat trap. I can’t.

Fine, fine.

Take this down to Rafe, and do it quietly. I do not want to hear a sound.

Roger that.

[sniffs] Mm, bacon.

Commissioner Hunter.

We need to talk.

Oh, I’m– I’m terribly busy looking through the wanted ads. I don’t know if you know this, but someone got me fired. So the answer is no.

It wasn’t a question.

As I– as I said, this isn’t a good time. So whatever it is you want, make it quick.

I just spoke with Steve Johnson, and he said he didn’t send Rafe on a case. So why did you tell me that he did?

I was there when he took the call.

So you say. But I don’t believe you.

Mm. Mm-mm. What happened to taking it slow?

I got the feeling you wanted to ditch that plan. Wait, are you not into this?

No, no, no, I am– I’m very, very into this.

Then why did you stop?

Remember when we had our second date? We had lunch at the Brady Pub, and we ran into Leo.

Oh, this has to do with Leo?

No, no, in– in a way. I just don’t want to make the same mistake with you that I made with him. I rushed into it, and he hurt me badly.

You know that I would never–

Of course not. What I’m saying is, is that I have learned not to rush into something new, especially when it’s with someone that I’m really starting to care about.

You care about me?

Baby, I don’t just make steak and eggs for anybody.

[laughter] But moving slow is not for everybody. So if this isn’t what you want–

Hey, what I want is for you to be happy, for us to be happy.

I want the same, guapo.

Then we will go at whatever pace you’re comfortable with. I’ll follow your lead.

OK.

Oh, I have to get to work.

No, no, no, no. Better idea– you play hooky and help me with wedding stuff. It’ll be fun. It’ll be fun.

I wish I could, but I have a lot to do. I’ll call you later, OK?

[tender music]

Oh, Kerry, your– your sweatshirt.

Keep it. You can wear it and think of me.

OK, so I will talk to Rafe and get the ball rolling on Rochester. But before I dash, Abe, might there be any wiggle room on Hattie? I totally get your reluctance, but I assure you, this time around, she is going to be a consummate professional. And the storyline that I have for Charlemagne, the fans are going to go bananas. They love it when people come back from the dead. Say yes, please? Please? Pretty please with a pork rind on top?

I’ll run it past Kate.

Ah! You are the best. You both are. Ciao for now.

You are a good man, Abraham Carver.

I had to get rid of him so we can get back to our breakfast. He stole my bacon!

Mm.

[chuckles]

Where did Jada go?

You know, I don’t know. She– she went out on some case.

Oh. OK. Well, I guess I’ll just leave this here for her then.

Yeah, I’ll make sure she gets it.

Thanks. See you later?

For sure.

So you and– you and Gabi?

We’re exploring possibilities. Is everything OK?

Mm, yeah, yeah. Yeah, why?

Well, I just got the sense you didn’t want to go into the details of Jada’s case in front of Gabi.

Well, you are right. I didn’t.

How come?

Because it’s about her brother.

I think you know where Rafe really is.

What on Earth would give you that idea?

At the New Year’s party, you were acting very strange with me. And at first, I thought it was because you blamed me for losing your job.

Uh, you are to blame. You convinced the mayor to replace me.

Whatever, EJ. Look, the point is, you weren’t just acting strange with me. You were acting strange with Rafe, too. You’re the only one that knows something about this case that Steve supposedly sent him on, which probably means you know something about his whereabouts.

You know– nah, never mind.

No. Say it.

If I wanted to go away and never be found, claiming that I’d received a last-minute, open-ended, top-secret mission would be a pretty good cover. Perhaps Black Patch’s case is nothing more than a case of a fiancé with cold feet.

You think if you insult me, I’ll leave? Not a chance. I know you know something. So let’s hear it. Now!

Kate. Look, it’s Abe. Leo came by, and he wanted to share an idea he had for the show.

Oh, Lord.

I told him I’d run it by you. He– he wants to bring Hattie back. Kate– Kate, I hear you. I hear– I hear you, Kate. Look, why don’t we just table this for right now and we’ll– we’ll talk later in person? Oh, well, I do– I do have some good news. I think we’re very close to exposing Lady Whistleblower once and for all.

[soft dramatic music]

Why does everything so bad for you taste so good?

[knocking]

Leo. Hey.

Hey, Javi. I’m sorry to drop by unannounced.

It’s fine. What’s going on?

I need to see Rafe.

So Steve didn’t send Rafe out on a case?

Yeah, that’s what he told Jada.

Weird.

Yeah, very.

So what’s Jada’s next move?

She went to talk to EJ. She thinks he’s mixed up in this.

After Paulina fired you, you threatened me. You said– and I quote– that “I wouldn’t get away with it.” Did you go after Rafe as payback?

[chuckles] Now, that is a preposterous accusation.

Oh, yes. Because you don’t have a vengeful bone in your body. Look, I’m not playing games, EJ. If you know where Rafe is, you need to tell me.

I’m terribly sorry your betrothed has fled to parts unknown, but I can’t help you.

That’s how you want to play this? OK, fine. If you don’t want to answer questions here, then we can do this down at the station. Let’s go.

I’m not going anywhere with you.

Do I need to remind you that I’m the police commissioner?

Do I need to remind you, despite the campaign to get me fired, I’m still an attorney. And I know that you can’t take me into custody without a warrant. And seeing how you obviously don’t have one, you can get the hell out of my house.

And once I’m in there and they welcome me back, I can set my plan in motion. They’ll be so busy keeping an eye on me, they’ll never know what hit ’em. While she may have made a good pitch, it does beg the question… why is Steffy being so accommodating and accepting? Update written by Joseph

Outside the Brady Pub, Marlena finishes her call with Shane. Steve and Kayla approach. Marlena remarks that Shane must be tired of taking her calls by now. Steve guesses she was trying to get in touch with John. Marlena says she always is, but even more so now, because she had a life changing conversation with Cat Greene.

Cat runs in to Chad in the town square. Chad questions what she’s doing here as he thought she was in Vancouver with her mom. Cat responds that she was, but she’s back now and reveals that she has decided to stay in Salem.

Xander sits in the living room of the Kiriakis Mansion, staring at the portrait of Victor. Maggie enters and says she didn’t know he was home. Maggie asks about Xander’s first day sharing the CEO position with Philiip. Xander calls it as miserable as she could imagine and that’s why he was thanking Victor for cursing him with the letter he wrote to Philip.

Philip remains at the Titan office, leaving another message for Stephanie that he needs to know she will keep quiet about the letter and to call him back. Kate arrives and tells Philip that she got his text, saying it was urgent. Philip says it definitely is. Kate thought he had dinner plans with Stephanie. Philip informs her that Stephanie is not having dinner with him any time soon and maybe never again.

At the hospital, Sarah asks if Stephanie is alright. Stephanie says not really as she and Philip just got in a huge fight about Xander. Sarah knows Xander and Philip got into an argument but she was hoping they’d keep their worst instincts in check, but she doesn’t know if the co-CEO thing is a good idea. Stephanie responds that it’s not and calls it a fiasco because Philip has no business being CEO in the first place. Sarah doesn’t understand since Stephanie helped Philip with his claim and the court ruled that Victor’s letter showed he wanted Philip to run the company. Sarah knows it’s messy for Philip and Xander but thought splitting Victor’s empire 50/50 might be the best solution. Stephanie responds that it isn’t. Sarah questions her changing her mind about Philip. Stephanie then reveals that’s because Philip’s letter from Victor was a complete forgery.

Chad questions Cat staying in Salem and not going to Vancouver. Cat explains that she and Aaron decided it was better to divide and conquer, since Aaron had enough credits to graduate early from Salem High, so he’s going to stay in Vancouver with their mother while she’s in Salem to be with Felicity while she graduates from high school so she can stay with her friends and teachers. Chad questions where Cat is going to stay. Cat informs him that their old family home is where Felicity feels most comfortable. Cat adds that she hopes it isn’t going to be a problem for Chad.

Philip reveals to Kate that Stephanie overheard him on the phone with her and knows about the forgery. Kate questions how he could be so careless and if he explained it away. Philip says there was no use and she’s obviously furious and called him a fraud. Kate encourages giving it time but Philip doesn’t think so. Kate remarks that Bradys can be very judgy. Philip states that Stephanie is really hurt because he lied to her and roped in to lying too. Kate asks if he thinks he can salvage it or if she has enough feelings for him to keep quiet. Philip says he doesn’t know since she stormed out before he could even ask.

Stephanie reveals to Sarah that Vivian forged the letter but Philip went along with it and that Vivian orchestrated the whole thing and tracked him down in New York. Stephanie can’t believe she helped Philip win his claim. Sarah understands she was just doing her job. Stephanie assures that she never would have helped Philip if she knew. Sarah appreciates Stephanie telling her. Stephanie admits she didn’t know what she was going to do with the information as she came to the hospital looking for Kayla, but when she found Sarah, she felt she had a right to know. Stephanie declares that Xander deserves to know he’s been had.

Xander tells Maggie that he feels like he’s been had and talks about how it felt to learn that Victor left his empire to him and that he trusted him to take Titan to the next generation. Xander complains that Philip swooped in with the letter and stole his birthright away. Maggie encourages that he hasn’t lost Titan so he still has it, he just has to share it. Xander calls it a nightmare. Maggie is sorry they are butting heads, but she’s sure they can work through it. Xander calls Philip the worst, arguing that he has none of Victor’s cunning or drive. Xander wishes there was a way he could get rid of Philip once and for all..

Sarah can’t imagine it was easy for Stephanie to tell her. Stephanie assures that her relationship with Philip is over as she couldn’t be with someone who could lie to her so easily and do anything for power. Sarah relates to previously feeling that way about Xander, but he’s proven himself as a husband and father. Stephanie is glad that she was reminded of who Philip really is before she got in too deep this time around. Stephanie asks Sarah how she thinks Xander is going to take it when she breaks the news. Sarah admits she doesn’t know. Sarah asks Stephanie to tell Kayla that she dropped off her research. Stephanie agrees to do so and wishes her luck as Sarah then exits. Stephanie sits down at Kayla’s desk and looks at a photo of Steve and Kayla, wondering where Kayla is because she could really use some of her sage advice right now.

Kayla advises Marlena to go through Kimberly to get Shane to get her in touch with John. Marlena says she thought of that but doesn’t think she could be any help. Steve points out that Shane was adamant and asks what Cat told Marlena. Marlena reveals that it turns out Victor didn’t send John to kill Catharina, but to fake her death so that she and her mother could escape from Konstantin. Steve is shocked to realize that John was the hero all along and says they should’ve known. Kayla calls it wonderful news. Marlena talks about John spending months beating himself up when this could be a burden off his shoulders. Steve points out that John’s been walking around thinking he killed Catharina while Marlena notes that it’s because of John that she lived and went on to have a family of her own.

Chad tells Cat that it’s not up to him to tell her where to live and it’s obvious that Felicity needs her, so there’s no reason for her to suffer because of what Clyde made Cat and Mark do. Cat says that’s generous of Chad to say and tells him that she will keep her distance from him. Chad assures that Salem is big enough for the both of them.

Maggie asks if Xander is going to do anything like hurting Philip. Xander assures that he would never do anything to risk being separated from Sarah and Victoria again. Maggie notes that he didn’t answer the question. Xander says he’s distracted by thinking about how much pleasure he would take in grinding Philip to dust. Maggie argues that they are brothers and insists that Victor loved them both equally. Xander complains that Victor only relied on him to do his dirty work while Maggie feels Victor valued that more than any other work. Maggie feels Philip would understand what it’s like to have a complicated relationship with his father, so they should be leaning on each other and not fighting. Xander brings up the story of Cain and Abel. Maggie questions if he wants that to happen.

Kate tells Philip to stop moping and go stop Stephanie from telling anyone about the letter. Philip says he just left her a voicemail and he doesn’t know where she is. Kate complains about how serious the situation is. Philip worries that if Xander finds out that he tricked him out of his birth right, he’s not just out of the company but he’ll be a dead man for real this time.

Marlena sits with Steve in the Brady Pub. They talk about how they each need to work less. Marlena mentions being in the process of hiring an assistant. They thank each other for keeping them company. Marlena remarks that she’s so tired of cooking for one. Steve is sure John is missing her just as much. Marlena talks about telling patients to be grateful for what they have and brings up what Julie is going through.

Maggie tells Xander that she’s already lost Victor, so she’s not going to lose another member of the family over a petty sibling rivalry. Xander questions being the bad guy getting a lecture. Maggie argues that he’s fantasizing getting rid of his brother and she’s not convinced that it’s just fantasy. Xander argues that Victor left Titan to him in his will and that should trump a letter. Maggie points out that the court already established things. Maggie knows the partnership won’t be easy, but she wants Xander to learn to work together with Philip for the company and the family. Xander compares it to how Maggie worked with Alex when she was running Titan.

Stephanie remains in Kayla’s office and listens to Philip’s voicemail, begging her to keep quiet about the letter. Stephanie deletes the voicemail and declares it’s too late. Kayla then arrives and asks too late for what.

Kate tells Philip that Stephanie is disappointed in him, but in her experience when people get upset like that, it means they care which means there’s still something between them. Kate encourages that Philip can talk reason in to her after she gets time to breathe. Philip talks about roping Stephanie and Belle in to his lie, so if it comes out, it could severely damage their careers too. Kate assures that’s why it won’t come out, but Sarah arrives and says to start thinking of a plan B because she knows everything.

Cat appreciates Chad being so gracious. Chad says he and his kids are safe, so he just wants to put the whole thing behind him.. Cat talks about just wanting to be a good guardian to Felicity and make up for lost time. Chad asks where she will work. Cat mentions having a lead on a job, revealing that she has an interview with Marlena.

Steve tells Marlena that missing her husband doesn’t mean she’s showing less compassion for anyone else’s grief. Marlena jokes that Steve could be a therapist. Steve asks if she heard anything at all from John over the holidays. Marlena tells him about the order of strawberries and cream she got on Christmas day. Marlena asks Steve if he would know that John is safe. Steve wishes he could help, but even he’s not privvy to the case he’s working for the ISA so he really doesn’t know what’s going on. Steve mentions doing some leg work for Shane on Christmas, but he wouldn’t be specific about what John is doing or where he’s doing it. Marlena keeps feeling that John is slipping further and further away.

Stephanie informs Kayla that she and Philip broke up. Kayla asks what happened as she thought they had a good time on New Year’s Eve. Stephanie says they did, so Kayla guesses something changed the way she feels about him. Stephanie responds that what changed is that Philip hasn’t changed.

Philip and Kate question what Sarah is talking about. Sarah informs them that she just spoke to Stephanie at the hospital, so she knows about Vivian and the forged letter. Sarah tells Philip not to try to deny it. Philip guesses since she’s alone, she hasn’t told Xander yet which she confirms. Kate asks why that is. Sarah responds that they all know, Xander won’t rest until Philip’s head is on a spike. Kate proposes that Sarah just not tell Xander.

Kayla says it’s obvious Stephanie is hurting, so she asks what Philip did. Stephanie says he was a little less than truthful but it’s probably best if she doesn’t know the particulars. Stephanie admits that she saw a side of Philip that made her sick and puts business and power above everything else. Kayla says maybe it’s good this happened early in the relationship so it will be easier to get over him.

Sarah questions Kate wanting her to lie to her husband to protect Philip. Kate argues that it’s to protect both of them since Xander will want blood. Sarah says she’ll do everything she can to prevent that. Kate complains that even if Xander doesn’t resort to violence, he will want to prosecute Philip. Sarah questions that being her problem. Kate argues that Philip has a rightful claim to Titan and talks about Philip being Victor’s favorite son. Kate says she knows what Victor’s wishes were while Sarah continues to argue against it. Philip questions why Sarah came here instead of going straight to Xander. Sarah says it’s because she wanted answers as to why he would screw over his own brother. Kate blames Vivian for preying on Philip’s grief and guilt, just like Gwen and Kristen took advantage of Sarah. Sarah argues that Gwen drugged her and Kristen kidnapped her while Vivian didn’t force Philip to go along with her plan. Kate brings up Xander shooting Marlena or kidnapping Bonnie and Susan. Sarah complains that Xander is the victim here. Philip talks about what Xander is capable of and questions what he’ll do with the full power of Titan. Sarah questions Philip saying that Xander needs him. Philip tells her that Xander was just talking about wanting to bribe DiMera family members for a hostile takeover and questions what his follow up will be. Philip says Kate talked about it being her and Victor’s dream for him to run Titan. Philip tells Sarah that all he ever wanted to do is make Victor proud of him while nothing he did ever seem to accomplish that, even serving in the military. Philip declares that this may be his last chance to show Victor that he’s worthy of carrying on his legacy and asks Sarah not to take that away from him. Philip states that if Sarah tells Xander what he did, he will lose his job, his freedom, and maybe even his sanity. Philip begs Sarah not to do that to him. Sarah responds that she’s sorry but she has to go think about it, so she exits the office.

Chad tells Cat that he wasn’t aware Marlena was in the marker for a new assistant. Cat explains that her recent one moved away and admits she was surprised Marlena would consider her. Chad mentions Marlena being a good friend of his too. Cat wouldn’t expect a reference. Chad calls Marlena the least judgmental person he’s ever met, especially when it comes to second chances. Cat guesses that if Marlena thinks she’s worthy of a second chance, there might be hope for her yet.

Xander tells Maggie that he didn’t mean his jab about her tenure as CEO. Maggie says he did but it’s alright. Xander asks if she’s not too offended. Maggie remarks that she was married to Victor, so it takes a lot to offend her. Maggie admits her running Titan with Alex was a cautionary tale as they proved how badly it can go when this family attempts to share power. Xander says that was exactly his point. Maggie responds that her point is that all of this could be changed if Philip and Xander manage to break the curse. Maggie asks Xander to promise to try to get along with Philip. Xander feels that’s asking a lot, but promises for her. Maggie says she will hold him to that as they say goodnight and she exits. Xander then declares that he’s sorry, but something tells him Philip won’t let him keep that promise.

Chad guesses he’ll be seeing Cat around then. Cat thanks him because in her head, she figured this could be awkward but he made it not so. Cat thanks him for making it okay. Chad tells her that it is okay. Cat tells him to take care and walks away.

Steve tells Marlena that he can relate to what she’s going through as he and Kayla have been there so many times. Marlena knows it never gets easier. Steve talks about how every day you’re apart, you become more aware how fleeting time is, but no matter who or what tried to separate them, they always found their way back to each other. Marlena thanks him for the reminder and the company. Steve tells Marlena to hang in because John will be home for her before she knows it. Steve adds that he and Kayla are there for her as they hug. Marlena then exits the Pub. Steve sits back down with his phone and calls Shane, leaving a message that they need to talk.

Stephanie tells Kayla that maybe her relationship with Philip imploding is a sign that she should focus on her career because ever since she moved back to Salem, she’s been in one failed relationship after another and it’s exhausting. Kayla would hate to see her give up on love. Stephanie jokes that Kayla just wants grandbabies. Kayla says she just cares about her happiness. Stephanie says her work makes her happy most of the time. Kayla compliments her big heart and says anyone would be lucky to share that with her. Kayla brings up that Marlena helped Belle get through her break up with Shawn and suggests they go have ice cream and watch romantic comedies. Stephanie agrees so they exit together.

Kate tells Philip that she was wondering when he was going to speak up for himself. Philip says Kate was doing such a good job defending him and speaking glowingly of him. Kate assures this is serious. Philip says that’s why he spoke to Sarah from the heart and every word of it was real. Philip hopes he got through to Sarah, otherwise she’s telling Xander the truth now and he’s on borrowed time.

Sarah goes home to Xander, who asks how it went with Kayla and if she put her back in rotation at the hospital. Sarah says Kayla wasn’t there. Xander notes that she was gone awhile. Sarah mentions running in to Stephanie and they talked about Xander and Philip. Xander guesses Philip was complaining to Stephanie about him. Xander informs Sarah that Maggie just left, but he made her a promise that he would try his best to get along with Philip and share the throne with his brother. Xander declares it is the right thing to do and probably the only way to avoid a family civil war. Xander then asks what Stephanie said. Sarah claims it’s just what he thought and that Philip is just having a tough time, but she’s sure he’ll figure it out. Xander kisses her and they hug.

Happy New Year and Happy National Gluten Free Day!

Happy Gluten Free Day!

I’ve been gluten-free (GF) for a few decades now. I was sick for years before an allergy doctor helped me figure out what was causing my IBS-like symptoms. Quite a few people have Celiac, or wheat allergies, or more. Some people just feel better avoiding it.

If you don’t know what gluten is, that’s pretty common, too. Gluten is in wheat, rye or barley, and these foods can be found in many store-bought products, and those used in restaurants. It’s very easy for those of us who are sensitive to the stuff to get “poisoned” by accident when we eat out or buy food anywhere. Gluten is in many products you wouldn’t think of, such as gum, soy sauce, potato chips, candy and even McDonald’s French fries.

Some people eat gluten-free because they think it will help them lose weight. Well, if you do eat a lot of starchy foods like pasta, bread, cookies, crackers, cake, etc. then, yes, cutting those things out will help you. However, if you just find replacement products that are gluten-free, you’re still not going to lose weight. In fact, you may gain weight because many gluten-free products substitute rice, potato or corn flour for wheat flour, which generally has more carbs and calories. They also tend to add more sugar, to make it taste better. The Talk on Tuesday April 10, 2018 the CBS Television Network. Julie Chen, shown with Actress Zooey Deschanel, who discusses the final season her show on "The Talk," Tuesday April 10, 2018 on the CBS Television Network.

Many celebrities eat GF, such as “Kardashians” star Kourtney Kardashian, movie/TV star Jessica Alba, reality star and TV show host Elizabeth Hasselbeck, “New Girl” star Zooey Deschanel, movie/TV star Ryan Phillippe, actress/reality star Denise Richards, and actress Jennifer Esposito, as well as soap stars Sarah Joy Brown, Courtney Hope, Tracey E. Bregman, and Arianne Zucker.  Quite a few celebrities also eat dairy-free, vegan or vegetarian – often for health reasons.

Unfortunately, a lot of comedians make fun of eating GF, as well as other disorders such as peanut allergies and IBS. I hope one day that they’ll be more sensitive to their audience members.

(Woodbridge, NJ JAN 8, 2025) — In today’s world of food allergies and celiac disease, eating a special diet that is free of gluten can be a challenging way to live that impacts every day and every meal.

More than 1.3 million Americans are on Gluten Free Diets, and according to US MAGAZINE, they include some of our *favorite celebrities – including Kourtney Kardashian, Jessica Alba and Zooey Deschanel, and many more. We can support them all by observing National Gluten Free Day! JAN 13, 2025

History of National Gluten Free Day

Gluten, a protein that is found in grains such as wheat, barley, rye and triticale, is a substance that many people struggle to digest, creating sensitivity in some people or even seriously dangerous health problems in others. One serious complication, called Celiac disease, is an autoimmune problem that prevents the absorption of nutrients in the body, which means that gluten needs to be cut out of their diet completely. National Gluten Free Day got its start in 2014 to raise awareness for the cause of eating gluten free, and it is observed on the second Monday of January each year.

In 2012 Carolyn Haeler was diagnosed with Celiac disease, and it changed her life forever. After 9 months of illness, she became passionate about functional ingredients, nutrition, and living a gluten-free life. When she couldn’t find any good tasting gluten free foods on store shelves, she decided to leave her position in the financial world and devote herself to developing delicious Gluten Free products, and hence MIGHTYLICIOUS Gluten Free Foods was born. Her line of artisanal and allergen-friendly cookies (7 varieties) and gluten flour blends have received accolades from the food industry and consumers alike and are available at retailers nationwide. Here’s why she Carolyn Haeler, creator of MIGHTYLICIOUS Gluten Free Foodssays you should consider a gluten-free diet:

Benefits of Eating Gluten Free

While most people may not have celiac disease, having a sensitivity or intolerance for gluten may be more common. This means that cutting out gluten in the diet might actually be beneficial even for some people who have not been diagnosed with celiac. (Of course, it is important to consult a medical professional or dietician about any health issues.)

Consider these benefits of a gluten free diet for those who have sensitivity:

1. Clear Skin

One of the most common symptoms of sensitivity to gluten is the appearance of a rash on various parts of the body, including the face, back, elbows, knees, and buttocks. These small red bumps are caused by dermatitis herpetiformis, an immune system response to eating gluten. Removing gluten from the diet can help clear things up, but some additional medication may be necessary depending on how extensive the skin rash is.

2. Better Gut Health

Many of the key issues caused by gluten occur in the digestive system, including bloating, gas, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and vomiting (7). When switching to a diet of gluten-free foods, most of these symptoms should disappear and gut health improve drastically. You may find that your bowel movements are more regular, abdominal pain and discomfort subsides, and that your digestive system is running more smoothly.

3. Decreased Headaches

Headaches and migraines are common complaints among those who can’t tolerate gluten, along with brain fog (8). Cutting out gluten-containing foods from your diet can help stop migraines and help you think more clearly.

4. Improved Energy Levels

Feeling tired after eating gluten-containing food is another common complaint from those suffering from celiac disease (9). This is why some may find that switching to a gluten-free meal plan improves their overall energy levels and mood.

5. Decreased Joint Pain

In one study, arthritis patients that have a gluten sensitivity or celiac disease eliminated gluten from their diet and found that their arthritis symptoms improved (10). For those who are prone to sore joints and cannot tolerate gluten, switching up your eating may decrease joint pain.

6. Improved Food Choices

If you are focused on choosing more naturally gluten free foods in your meal plan, you may find that your nutrition improves from better food choices. This is because naturally gluten free foods are typically whole foods like meat, dairy, fruits, and vegetables. Additionally, many gluten free grain alternatives tend to be simple, whole grains like brown rice, quinoa, and many ancient grains.Jessica Alba eating gluten-free in Italy

7. Weight Loss

Unexpected weight loss is a symptom of celiac disease due to many of the associated digestive concerns. However, switching to a gluten free meal plan can lead to more intentional weight loss when it is included as part of a balanced, calorie-controlled diet. This is typically the result of improved food choices and decreased calorie intake when cutting out certain foods.

How to Celebrate National Gluten Free Day – Try Eating Gluten Free

In solidarity with those in the world who must eat a gluten free diet, consider taking National Gluten Free Day as a time to experiment with what it would be like. Choose to avoid foods that contain gluten, such as pasta, bread, crackers and more. Cut out all wheat, as well as foods that may have been prepared in facilities that contain wheat, such as oatmeal. Instead, go for gluten free substitutes for bread, or simply avoid grains altogether and eat a diet that consists more of fresh fruits, vegetables, rice, potatoes and dairy products.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

All right. I know you would if you could. Yeah. Thanks, Shane. Take care.

Shane?

He must be tired of taking my calls by now.

[sighs]

Oh, I doubt that. Come on. Were you trying to get in touch with John?

As always, but even more so right now.

Is there something you need to tell him?

Yes. I want to share with him that I had a– a life-changing conversation with Ms. Greene.

Hi.

Hi.

What are you do– what are you doing here? I thought you were in Vancouver with your mom.

Um, I– yeah, I was. And I’m– I’m back now.

Oh, OK. For how long?

Um, I’m– I’ve decided to stay here in Salem.

[relaxed music]

[soft dramatic music]

Oh, Xander, I didn’t know you were home.

Hello, Maggie.

How was your first day sharing the CEO position with your brother?

About as miserable as you can imagine. That’s why I was just thanking your dearly departed husband for cursing me with that letter he wrote to Philip.

I’m serious, Steph. I need to know you’ll keep quiet about everything. Call me, please.

[phone beeps]

[door clicks]

Hey! I got your text. You said it was urgent.

Oh, it definitely is.

I thought you had plans with Stephanie for dinner.

Yeah, well, those plans have gone bye-bye. She’s not having dinner with me any time soon. Maybe never again.

[sighs]

You all right?

Not really. Philip and I just had a huge fight.

Oh.

About your husband.

About Xander? I– I mean, I know that he and Philip had an argument. I was really kind of hoping that they would keep each other’s worst instincts in check, but I don’t know. Maybe this whole co-CEO thing isn’t such a great idea after all.

No, it isn’t. In fact, it’s a complete fiasco… because Philip has no business being CEO in the first place.

I don’t– sorry, I don’t understand. You– you helped Philip with his claim. The court ruled that Victor’s letter showed that he– he wanted Philip to run the company.

Because they found the letter to be just as legit as the will leaving Titan to Xander.

Yeah. And– and look, I know it’s messy for Xander and Philip, but I think splitting Victor’s empire 50/50 might be the best solution.

Except it isn’t.

I– I really– I don’t understand what’s happening, Stephanie. You’ve changed your mind about Philip? What–

I’ve changed my mind because it turns out, Philip’s letter from Victor…

Yeah, what about it?

It was a complete forgery.

[dramatic music]

[soft orchestration]

announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

So you’re going to stay in Salem, but for good.

Um, well, for the foreseeable future, yeah.

I thought you– I thought the plan was for you to go to Vancouver.

It was, but Aaron and I decided it was better to divide and conquer.

Divide the family?

Well, Aaron is a little bit of a smarty pants. He had enough credits to graduate early from Salem High, a full semester. So he’s going to stay up in Canada with our mother and, you know, be with her until the case works itself through the system.

And you’re back here?

Yeah, to be with Felicity while she graduates from high school so she can spend the rest of her time with her friends and teachers that she loves.

But you’re– you’re going to live here?

Yeah.

[relaxed music]

Where are you going to stay?

Um, we’re going to stay at our old family home. It’s the place where Felicity feels the most comfortable.

OK.

[dramatic music]

Chad, I, um– I hope this isn’t going to be a problem for you.

Stephanie knows about the forgery?

[sighs] How?

She overheard me on the phone with you.

Oh, God, Philip, how could you be so careless?

Go ahead. Kick a man when he’s down.

Well, did you explain it away?

It was no use. She heard what she heard.

[sighs] Oh, God. So what did she say?

She’s furious, obviously. She called me a fraud.

OK, well, that is understandable in the moment. But maybe given time–

I don’t think so, Mom.

[sighs] God, those Bradys.

[chuckles] They’re very judgy, all right? I know. I’m married to one.

This was more than your run-of-the-mill Irish Catholic righteous indignation. She’s really hurt, not only because I lied to her, but that I roped her into lying too.

OK, but don’t you think you can salvage it?

The relationship or my place in Titan?

Both. Both. You don’t think she still has enough feelings for you that she would keep quiet?

I don’t know. She stormed out of here before I could even ask.

[tense music]

Philip forged Victor’s letter?

Apparently, Vivian Alamain is the one who actually did the deed, but he was all too willing to go along with it.

I should have guessed Vivian was involved.

Philip claims that she orchestrated the whole scheme. Came to see him in New York to get him on board.

And he– he just admitted this to you?

He had no choice.

Did he have any defense?

Just the poor little rich boy garbage. Should have been him, not Xander, blah, blah, blah.

[sighs] I can’t believe I used that same shtick with the media to help him win his claim.

You were just doing your job, right?

Sarah, you know that if I’d had any idea this claim were bogus, I never– I never would have helped him.

No, I– I know that. Of course, I know that. And I’m– I really appreciate you telling me.

When I left Philip, I honestly didn’t know what I was going to do with the information. I came here to talk to my mom, but when I found you here, I– I knew I had no choice. Xander has a right to know he’s been had.

I just feel like I’ve been had.

Really? How so?

Maggie, do you have any idea what it was like for me to learn that not only was Victor my father, but he left his empire to me? Me? Not Bo, not Brady or Sonny. Not even his precious, spoiled rotten Philip.

Well, I know how long you lived for this affirmation.

To know that he really did trust me, that he trusted me to take Titan into the next generation, it was…everything. And then Philip swooped in with that letter and ripped my birthright away.

Like Lucy and Charlie Brown with the football?

What?

Oh, never mind. The point is you haven’t lost Titan. I mean, you still have your birthright. You just have to share it.

Yeah, with an unstable, super entitled mummy’s boy. It’s a bloody nightmare, Maggie.

Well, I’m sorry that you are butting heads with Philip, but I am sure that you can work through it.

I’m not sure at all. Philip is the worst, Maggie! I mean, I know he was born into the Kiriakis family and raised as Victor’s son, but he has none of the old man’s cunning or drive. God, I just– I just wish there was some way I could get rid of the son of a bitch once and for all.

[ominous music]

I– I can’t imagine that it was easy telling me about the letter, given your relationship with Philip.

My relationship with Philip is over. I can’t build a future with someone who would lie to me like that. And he would clearly do just about anything for power.

There were times that I felt that way about Xander, but he– he really has proven himself to me as a husband and as a father.

Yeah. Well, I’m just glad that I was reminded of who Philip really is before I get in too deep this time around.

Yeah. So much for that, huh?

[soft dramatic music]

So how do you think Xander’s going to take it when you break the news?

I– I don’t know.

Would you tell your mom that I– I dropped off her research for her?

Yeah, of course.

OK.

Good luck.

Yeah, thank you.

[sigh] Where are you, Mom? I could really use some of your sage advice right now.

If you want my advice, the quickest way to get Shane to get you in touch with John is to go through Kimberly.

I’ve thought of that, but I don’t think she could be of any help.

Shane was adamant that he wants John to be incommunicado. Now, you said that Cat Greene told you something life-changing. What did she tell you?

It turns out that Victor didn’t send John to Greece to kill Catharina. He was sent there to fake her death so she and her mother could escape from Konstantin.

What? So are you saying that John was the hero all along?

That’s what Cat said.

I’ll be damned. We should have known.

That’s wonderful news.

John has spent all these months beating himself up. Turns out that this could be a burden lifted off his shoulders.

Sure could. And he’s been walking around all this time thinking he killed Konstantin’s daughter.

And it was because of John that– that she lived and went on to have a family of her own.

Look, it’s not up to me to tell you where to live, and it’s obvious your sister needs you, so…

Yeah. Salem is Felicity’s home.

There’s no reason for her to suffer because of what Clyde made you and Mark do.

[relaxed music]

[sigh] That’s really generous of you to say. Thank you. But I will, you know, keep my distance, turn the other way when you’re walking this way.

[laughs]

No, look, Salem might seem like a small town, but I promise you, it’s plenty big for you and me.

You’re not going to do anything rash, are you, Xander?

Rash?

Like hurting Philip?

I would never risk being separated from Sarah and Victoria ever again.

[ominous music]

You didn’t answer my question.

Sorry, Maggie. I’m just distracted by thinking about how much pleasure it would give me to grind that weasel into the dust.

That weasel is your brother.

Name only.

And blood.

Are we sure about that? Did Vivian 100% definitely steal the right embryo all those years ago?

You know, that’s enough. You and Philip are both Victor’s sons. He loved you both equally.

Honestly, I’m impressed that you can say that with a straight face.

Admittedly, my husband had a funny way of showing things, but he loved you, Xander. And he loved Philip, and he loved Bo, and he loved Isabella. And he relied on you all these years.

He relied on me to do his dirty work.

And we both know that Victor valued that more than any other kind of work.

Look, if anyone understands what it’s like to be in a complicated relationship with his father, it’s Philip. Now, you two should be leaning on each other and not fighting.

You do know that Cain and Abel were brothers, too, right?

[laughs] Yes. We know how that ended. Abel wound up dead at his brother’s hand. And the point of that story is Cain was forever marked and banished from his family. Now, do you want that to happen to you, Xander?

OK, you’re standing there like someone who just lost their favorite toy. You need to stop moping. You need to get out there and stop Stephanie from telling anyone about that letter.

I just got done leaving her a voicemail when you walked in, begging her not to say anything. I’d go see her in person, but she walked out on me, and I don’t know where she is.

OK, do you know how serious this situation is?

Of course, I do. Because if Xander finds out that I tricked him out of his birthright, I’m not just out of the company, I’m a dead man, this time for real.

[dramatic music]

You know, your wife needs to work less.

Look who’s talking.

Look who’s talking? Where were you on Christmas?

Uh, OK. I guess we all have issues with work-life balance.

Mm-hmm. Well, I’m in the process of hiring an assistant.

Mm. Well, good for you.

Mm-hmm.

Well, listen, thanks for hanging out with me and keeping me company.

Thanks for keeping me company. I’m so tired of cooking for one.

Well, if it’s any comfort, I’m sure that John is missing you as much as you miss him.

Thanks. You know, I always talk to my patients about gratitude. Try to be grateful for what they have, not miss what they don’t have. Actually, I’m doing pretty well in that area, especially when I think about what Julie is going through.

[soft dramatic music]

Listen, I’ve already lost your father, and I’ll be damned if I’m going to stand here and lose another member of this family over some petty sibling rivalry.

Can you please explain how I became the bad guy in this equation?

Who said you’re the bad guy?

I’m the one getting a lecture.

Yeah, well, you’re the one standing here, and you’re fantasizing about how to get rid of your brother. And I’m not convinced it’s just fantasy.

Victor left Titan to me in his last will and testament. That has to trump some dashed-off remarks in a letter.

The court already established this, Xander. There were extenuating circumstances as to why Victor couldn’t put Philip’s name in the will.

Extenuating circumstances.

Yes.

That’s what we’re calling stark raving bonkers these days.

Mental illness. Come on. It’s no laughing matter.

I 100% agree with you.

Well, Philip is better.

So he says.

[sigh] Listen, this partnership is not going to be easy. I know that. But I want you, for Victor’s sake, for the company’s sake, for the family’s sake, you will learn to work together.

You mean like how you and Alex worked so well together when you were running Titan?

Whoa.

[chuckles] Wow.

[phone beeps]

– Steph, it’s me.

I’m really sorry

about our fight.

I understand why you don’t

want to see me anymore,

but when you get this message,

please call me back

right away.

I need to know

that you won’t tell anyone

about that letter

being forged.

I’m serious, Steph.

I need to know you’ll

keep quiet about everything.

Call me, please.

Well, too late.

Too late for what?

OK. I mean, Stephanie’s disappointed in you. That’s fair. But in my experience, when people get upset like that, it means they care.

Oh, she cares, all right.

Which means there’s still something between the two of you. When she’s had a chance to breathe, then you can talk some reason into her.

[laughs] I wish I shared your optimism, but I didn’t just use a forged letter to go after Titan. I roped Steph and Belle into it too. And if it comes out–

Which it can’t.

If it comes out, it could severely damage their careers too.

Which is exactly the reason that she will keep her mouth shut.

Well, you want to start thinking about plan B.

Sarah, this is a surprise. If you’re looking for Xander–

Oh, cut the crap, Philip. I know everything.

[tense music]

I really appreciate you being so gracious. I don’t think most people would be if they were in your shoes.

Yeah, well, look, my kids are safe, I’m safe, and I just want to put the whole thing behind me.

Me too. Yeah. I just want to focus on being a good guardian for my little sister. She’s– she’s such a great kid. She’s so sweet. Oh, I love her so much. I– I’m just trying to make up for lost time, I guess.

[relaxed music]

So where, um– where are you going to work?

I have a lead on a job, actually.

Yeah? Where?

I have an interview with Dr. Marlena Evans.

You know, Marlena, missing your husband doesn’t mean you’re showing less compassion for anyone else’s grief.

[bright country music]

You should be a therapist.

Oh.

[laughs] Yeah, could you see it? Me sitting there with a notepad and a pipe hanging out of my mouth?

Hmm.

So did you hear anything at all from John over the holidays?

I– I got an order of strawberries and whipped cream on Christmas Day.

Of course, you did.

Is he safe? You would know, wouldn’t you?

[mysterious music]

I wish I could help you, but even I’m not privy to the case he’s working on for the ISA.

You really don’t know what’s going on?

I don’t. I don’t. I did some legwork for Shane on Christmas, but he wouldn’t be specific with me about what John is doing or where he’s doing it.

Oh. I keep getting the feeling that he is slipping farther and farther away.

It’s, um– it’s over for me and Philip, Mom. We broke up.

Oh. Oh. Well, what happened? I thought you had a good time on New Year’s Eve.

We did.

But something must have changed the way you feel about him.

What’s changed is that Philip hasn’t changed.

[tense music]

I’m sorry. What am I cutting the crap about?

Is this really how you want to play it, Philip?

Sarah, I’m not sure we even know what you’re talking about.

No? OK. Let me give you a hint. I just spoke to Stephanie at the hospital.

OK.

Oh– and I know about Vivian and the forged letter. Don’t try to deny it. I’m not going to believe you.

Sarah, assuming you’re here alone and Xander’s not waiting outside with a baseball bat, I’m guessing that means you haven’t told your husband yet.

No.

And why is that, Sarah?

Well, because we all know that when I tell Xander, he won’t rest until Philip’s head is on a spike.

Hmm. Well, since that’s the case, I propose a solution.

This should be good.

How about you just don’t tell Xander?

Well, it’s obvious you’re hurting. What did– what did Philip do?

Let’s just say he was a little less than truthful.

And you don’t want to talk about it?

It’s probably best if you don’t know the particulars, but I saw a side of Philip that made me sick.

The side of him that’s Victor Kiriakis’s son.

That’s the one, the one who puts business and power above everything else.

Well, you know, maybe it’s good that this happened early on, the relationship, you know? So it’d be easier to get over him.

Yeah. It definitely will.

[soft dramatic music]

You want me to lie to my husband to protect Philip?

No, to protect both of them, because you said it yourself. If Xander finds out about that letter, he’s going to want blood. And we all know what happens when he goes down that path.

[tense music]

I will do everything I can to try to prevent that from happening.

Oh, oh, OK, OK. Even if he doesn’t resort to violence, he’s going to want to prosecute Philip.

How is that my problem? Maybe Philip should have thought about that before he decided to con his own family.

Philip has a rightful claim to his father’s legacy.

Victor was also Xander’s father, and in his will, he wanted Xander to run Titan.

Because Philip had mental illness at the time when the will was being drawn up. We all know that Philip was Victor’s favorite son.

Says his mother.

Yes. Yes, because I know better than anyone what Victor’s plans were for Philip because they were my plans too. Because when Victor and I decided that we wanted to have a child together, even back then, Victor was dreaming about the day that he would hand over Titan to his son.

Are we really talking about Victor’s dreams for Philip before he was even born?

Why’d you come here, Sarah?

What do you mean, why did I come here? I came here to confront you.

No. I mean, why didn’t you leave Stephanie and go straight to Xander?

Because I wanted some answers first.

Answers about what?

Not what. Why? Why was this so important to you that you’re willing to screw over your own brother?

I can answer that.

Of course, you can.

Because Vivian Alamain, who’s a bloodsucking leech, was preying on Philip’s grief and his guilt, just the same way that Gwen and Kristen took advantage of you.

Are you joking? Gwen drugged me, and Kristen kidnapped me and left me prisoner on an island for months. Vivian didn’t force Philip to go along with her plan. He could have said no.

Yeah, you’re right. Just the way that Xander could have said no to shooting Marlena, to kidnapping Bonnie and Susan Banks.

This isn’t about Xander’s misdeeds. He’s the victim here.

[chuckles]

And you know Xander better than anyone. You’ve seen what he’s capable of when he was just a regular guy with regular resources. Do you really want to see what he’ll do if given the full, unchecked power of Titan Industries?

Are you saying that Xander needs you?

The guy was literally just talking about wanting to bribe DiMera board members and to go along with a hostile takeover. What do you think he’ll come up with as a follow-up?

My mom mentioned the dreams she and my dad had about me running the company one day. Now, let me tell you about my dreams.

I really don’t need to hear this.

Sarah. Sarah, lives are on the line. Just let him talk.

Go ahead.

All I’ve ever wanted to do is make my father proud of me. Nothing I did seemed to accomplish that, not even serving in the military. Do you know what that does to someone?

[soft dramatic music] This may be my last chance to show the great Victor Kiriakis that I’m worthy of carrying on his legacy. Please don’t take that away from me.

If you tell Xander what I did, I’ll lose everything, my job, my freedom, maybe even my sanity.

Philip…

Don’t do that to me, Sarah. I’m begging you.

I’m sorry. I just– I need to go. I need to think about this.

Sarah.

[ominous music]

I wasn’t aware that Marlena was in the market for a new assistant.

Yeah, I think her recent one moved away. And yeah, I…

[laughs] Was kind of surprised that she was willing to consider me, to be honest.

Well, do you– do you have a good résumé?

Yes, I just– I mean, because she’s good friends with Abigail’s parents, and she knew Abigail since she was a girl.

She’s a good friend of mine too.

I wouldn’t expect any references from you guys.

Oh, no. Look, Marlena is the, um– is the least judgmental person I’ve ever met. I mean, when it comes to second chances, she walks the walk. She, uh– she even went to bat for a reformed serial killer who she thought murdered her grandson, so there’s that.

Wow. I guess my crimes pale in comparison to a– serial killer?

Mm-hmm, yep, yeah. Our old friend Clyde Weston’s son.

Wow. What a family.

Yeah.

[laughs]

[relaxed music] Well, I guess if Dr. Evans thinks I’m worthy of a second chance, might be hope for me yet.

I didn’t mean it, you know?

Mean what?

My wee jab about your tenure as CEO.

Sure, you did. But it’s all right.

You’re not too offended?

I was married to Victor Kiriakis. Takes a lot to offend me.

Right.

And let’s be honest. My tenure at running Titan with Alex as my number 2 was a cautionary tale. We proved how badly things can go when a member of the family, this family, attempts to share power.

Which was exactly my point.

Mm-hmm. And my point is, all of this could be changed if you and Phil managed to break the curse.

More like to break his face.

Oh, Xander.

Sorry.

Would you promise to try?

Try to get along with Philip?

Your brother.

I don’t know, Maggie. You’re asking a lot there. I mean, he’s just–

[soft dramatic music] All right. I promise. Anything for my favorite mother-in-law.

I better be your only mother-in-law.

[laughs]

I’m going to hold you to it. OK.

Goodnight.

Goodnight, Maggie.

[sighs] I’m sorry, Maggie, but something tells me Philip is not going to let me keep that promise.

[dramatic music]

Well, OK then. I guess I’ll be seeing you around.

Yeah, I guess so. Thank you.

For what?

I just– in my head, I figured this could be kind of awkward, and you made it really not awkward, so thank you. You made it OK.

It is OK.

[relaxed music]

Take care of yourself.

You too.

You know, I can obviously relate to what you’re going through. Kayla and I have been where you and John are so many times.

[bright country music]

Never gets easier, does it?

No, it doesn’t. Because each day you’re apart, you become more and more aware of just how fleeting time is.

But the good news is, no matter who or what tried to separate us, Kayla and I always found our way back to each other, just like you and John do.

Thanks, for the reminder and thanks for the company. I needed that.

French fries and friendship. Always does the trick, doesn’t it?

[laughs] I think I’ll be going.

Mm-hmm.

Now, listen. You hang in there because John will be home for his Doc before you know it. And in the meantime, Kayla and I are here for you.

I know you are.

OK.

[mysterious music]

[phone beeps]

Shane, it’s Steve. You give me a call. We need to talk.

Maybe my relationship with Philip imploding is a sign that I should focus on my career for now.

You mean no more dating?

Ever since I moved to Salem, I’ve been in one failed relationship after another. It’s honestly exhausting.

Well, you have had a rough go of it, but I would hate to see you give up on love.

You’re just saying that because you want grandbabies.

[laughs]

N– no! I mean, yes, of course, I want them someday. But I really just care about your happiness.

My work makes me happy, most of the time.

And you are great at it. But still, you have a big, big, beautiful heart, loving heart. And anyone is going to be lucky to share that with you.

Thanks, Mom.

Hey, you know what? Marlena helped Belle get through her relationship breakup with Shawn by a new game-changing therapy.

Really?

Mm-hmm.

What’s it called?

It’s called ice cream, cookies, and rom-com immersion.

Sign me up.

Let’s do it, shall we?

Yeah.

Let’s go.

Yeah, yeah.

Oh, I love you, girl.

I love you too.

[soft dramatic music]

What?

I was wondering when you were going to speak up for yourself.

You’re doing such a bang-up job defending me. I figured I shouldn’t slow your momentum.

Well, I appreciate that.

Besides, how often do I get to hear you speak so glowingly of me?

OK, this is serious.

Trust me, I know. That’s why I decided to speak to Sarah from the heart.

And all of that was real?

Every word of it. Let’s just hope I got through to her because if I didn’t, she’s telling Xander the truth right now…

[sighs] And I’m on borrowed time.

Oh, there you are. How’d it go with Kayla?

[laughs] Did she put you back on rotation full time?

Um, no– well, she wasn’t in her office when I got to the hospital.

Well, you were gone quite a while.

Yeah, I, um– I ran into Stephanie.

Oh. Did you two have a lovely visit?

Not really, no. We talked about you and Philip.

[sighs] Yeah. I’m sure my brother was complaining to his girlfriend about mean old Xander not sharing his toys at the office.

Xan–

Darling, before you say anything, your mom just left, and I made her a promise.

About what?

I promised her that for her sake and Victor’s that I would try my best to get along with Philip. Share the throne with my brother.

Wow.

It is the right thing to do, and probably the only way to avoid a family civil war, so… So what did Stephanie say?

[dramatic music]

Uh, uh, she– it’s pretty much what you thought. Yeah. Philip’s just– he’s having a really tough time, but I know that you’ll figure it out.

Well, from your perfect lips to God’s ears.

[laughs]

Days Opinions For The Week Of January 6, 2025

Opinion Article

by Michele & Cheryl

EJ DiMera

We have to scratch our heads when we watch EJ on the show. What are the writers doing with his character? Do they want us to love him or hate him? He didn’t want Arnold (Fake Rafe) to be with Jada because of what he did to Sami when he was around the first time. It’s good that he didn’t want that to happen a second time. Thumbs up to EJ for wanting to do the right thing. With that said, he dragged Rafe to the tunnels at the DiMera mansion to clean up Arnold’s mess. He felt like Rafe got what he deserved because he wouldn’t leave the mansion when he wanted him to go. Rafe was dumbed down in that moment, but this rant is about EJ. Do the writers want us to be confused about him? He needs to make up his mind about what he wants to do. For example, he kept Rafe in the tunnels and gave him access to his phone. What type of villain would do something like that? He definitely should have taken his phone from him. Jada could have figured out what happened. We know that was wishful thinking, but she might have realized that Rafe was missing. EJ can’t have it both ways. He can’t turn a blind eye when Arnold pursues Jada and then warn him not to do anything with her.

It’s time to shift gears and rant about someone else. Joy had us yelling at the screen. Chanel confronted Joy about making out with Johnny. It should have been a classic moment, but it didn’t turn out that way. Joy had an attitude when Chanel confronted her. She should have humbled herself when Chanel had every right to be mad at her. Joy had the nerve to say that she didn’t ask her to befriend her. We couldn’t believe our ears. Chanel wasn’t the one in the wrong. Joy and Johnny were wrong. They made out and kept the truth from Chanel. She had every right to confront Joy about her role in the secret. Joy has a nasty attitude considering Chanel was trying to be a friend to her. We hoped the value would be bigger since they were friends but that didn’t happen. Joy’s response made the showdown fall flat. If she humbled herself, we would have enjoyed the scene better.

We wonder what we’re supposed to think about Amy (Sophia’s mother). She is a conservative woman and wants her daughter to keep her baby. It looks like the writers are trying to make Amy look like a bad woman for having old fashioned values. Amy is pro-life and there’s nothing wrong with that. For some reason, the writers are choosing to make her look like a monster for wanting Sophia to keep her baby and get married. We know the writers want us to root for Tate and Holly so anyone who keeps them apart will be considered a villain. It must be Amy’s turn now that Sophia has been destroyed. We are being manipulated into hating her character because she wants Tate and Sophia to own up to what they did. On a side note, Holly said the consenting age in Salem was 17 when she wanted to be with Johnny. If that’s true, how come Sophia had to leave Salem to get an abortion? We know that Amy has to be the new interloper for Tate and Holly’s relationship, so she wanted him to marry Sophia. Back to the point of our rant. Tate and Sophia wanted to get an abortion to fix their careless mistake. We are pro-choice and don’t have an issue with abortion. Tate and Sophia decided to get the abortion because the baby was an inconvenience. She could have given the baby up for adoption. For some reason, they didn’t want to consider that option.

Brady and Kristen talked about Rachel’s behavior. They needed to have a conversation about her because she’s out of control. Rachel’s behavior needed to be addressed. They talked about her sending the texts to Ava. Brady suggested they get her help before her attitude gets worse. We applaud the writers for having parents have a conversation like that about their troubled daughter. Kristen tried to defend her, but she had to give in once Brady told her that Rachel would get like them.

The writers showed Julie mourning Doug. We weren’t sure if they were going to have her break down anymore once Doug III arrived. She seemed like she was over Doug’s death once he got there. It broke our hearts to hear her talk about feeling responsible for Doug dying. Most people felt that way when they lost the people they loved. We wonder what we could have done differently. Could one action prevent the person you love from dying? Susan Seaforth-Hayes lost Bill Hayes (Doug) in real life, so watching her grieve on the show was like seeing her pain. We applaud her for her realistic performance.

Writers on shows tend to create stories to get us to shift our opinions about certain characters. We see it happening with Stephanie. They go overboard getting us to believe that Stephanie is a hot character. The woman has been linked to at least five men since she’s been back on the show. She has been with Alex, Chad, Everett, Philip and made out with Harris before he left the show. Stephanie hasn’t been back that long, but she has done her share of bed-hopping. We understand people don’t have to settle with one person, but she is getting around on the show. It’s time for other characters to have fun on the show besides Stephanie. Our next rant has to do with Stephanie too.

Stephanie must be a villain on the show. The only people who overhear things on the show are villains. She overheard Philip’s conversation with Kate. He admitted that Victor’s letter was forged. Stephanie conveniently heard him admit to that. We didn’t think it would get revealed that fast. She told him off for risking her career with the forgery. Philip was stupid to talk about something like that on the phone. Kate already knew that no one could find out, so what was the point of the conversation? He was clearly supposed to get caught that way. Stephanie thought about Alex while she was sleeping in bed with Philip, so it helped her that she heard that conversation. It’s the ticket she needed to get away from Philip. We couldn’t believe that Philip got caught that way. He should have been smarter than that because he did something that could make him go to jail. We think the writers are trying to make us root for Xander while destroying Philip’s character once again.

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Julie stared blankly when Chad arrived at the house. She confessed that she couldn’t go to bed because it was lonely without her Doug. Julie was feeling depressed because of losing Doug. She blamed herself for not seeing what was happening with Doug. He never complained about how he felt. She blamed herself for losing Doug. Chad told her that she was a great wife. Doug was a lucky man because he had her. Chad understood how she felt and told her that it was part of the grieving process to feel responsible. He felt that way when Abby died. Julie understood that, but she didn’t know who to be anymore. He assured her that she would figure it out Julie shifted gears and talked to him about grieving Abby again. Chad said he didn’t have to worry about that anymore since Cat was in Canada while her mother was in custody. He wasn’t sure when he would see her again, but he noticed a different side to her. Chad realized that she was trying to save her mother’s life. Cat wasn’t forgiven yet, but he understood her better than before. His comment made Julie wonder if he had feelings for Cat. Chad assured her that nothing would ever happen with Cat. Cat approached Marlena in the town square. She apologized for her behavior. Marlena understood how Clyde operated. Cat appreciated it and wanted to talk to John about what happened with her mother. Marlena invited her to sit with her and let her know that John wasn’t in Salem. Cat explained everything that happened to her mother. Victor sent John to Greece to save her mother from Konstantin. He helped fake her death so she could get away from him. John saved her life. Marlena was grateful to hear the story.

Holly wanted to know why Doug didn’t go to the police about what happened to him. He admitted that he stole the Horton necklace to repay his debt. Unfortunately, he didn’t have enough money. Holly was upset, but Doug said he cared about Julie. He couldn’t tell Julie the truth about what he did. Doug didn’t want her to tell Holly the truth either. Xander complained about the letter that Philip had from Victor. He told Sarah that Philip didn’t want to go along with his plan to go after DiMera Enterprises. Xander was willing to do something underhanded to get the company. Sarah wasn’t thrilled about his plan either because she wanted him to be there for her and Victoria. He assured her that his family was the most important thing to him. Stephanie was shocked to hear Philip admit the letter from Victor was fake. After Philip got off the phone, she confronted him about his call. Philip admitted that Vivian forged the letter from Victor. Stephanie called him a fraud and told him about what he could have done to her and Belle’s careers. Philip wanted to explain everything over dinner. She refused to go out with him and told him it was over between them. Philip wanted to understand why she wanted to end their relationship over what he did. She told him that what he did was a crime, and she refused to let him put her in danger again. He thought she wanted to end things because she wanted Alex. She didn’t care what he thought about that because she was done with him. Chad was in the town square and ran into Cat. Marlena reached out to Shane to let him know what Cat told her. Xander opened his laptop to think of ways to increase Titan’s profits. He was upset about Victor’s letter to Philip. Philip apologized to Stephanie on her voicemail. He hoped that she wouldn’t tell anyone about the forged letter. Stephanie ran into Sarah and told her that Philip didn’t have any business being co-CEO at Titan.

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

Julie sits alone in the living room of the Horton house in the dark until Chad comes in and turns on the lights. Chad asks what she was doing sitting in the dark. Julie says she just dozed off. Chad says it’s late and suggests she get upstairs to bed. Julie responds that she dreads going upstairs, so she puts it off as long as she can. Chad says he understands. Julie points out that Doug isn’t there, so it’s lonely.

Holly tells Doug III that she will put his shirt in the wash, but first she needs him to tell her the truth. She says she backed him up with Sarah but she wants the truth as to why he didn’t want her to call the police. He then informs her that he had a run-in with the police before coming to Salem which she questions. He explains that he was in a bar fight and ended up in jail for a few days, so he didn’t want to risk getting in trouble again. Holly asks how he could get in trouble when he was the victim of getting mugged, but something’s telling her there is more to the story.

Xander tells Sarah that he hated the idea of splitting Titan with Philip, but he was holding on to hope that it wouldn’t be so terrible. Xander tells her that today was a disaster and talks about how Philip dragged the other desk in to his office, so they are already having major problems on their first day. Xander complains that Philip is going to undermine his every decision. Sarah tells Xander that he will have to get used to it because of the judge’s ruling. Xander says it’s all because of that stupid letter.

At the Titan office, Philip talks on the phone to Kate and says that he and Xander are off to a rocky start because he squashed one of his big plans, but he controls 50% of the company so Xander will not prevail. Philip assures Kate that there is no way that Xander will find out the letter Victor supposedly wrote him was forgery, so he tells her not to worry about it right as Stephanie arrives to the office. Philip says that as of now, Xander has no clue that the letter isn’t real so as far as he and everyone else are concerned, his claim to Titan is completely legit. Stephanie is shocked as she overhears him and backs out of the room as Philip finishes the call. Stephanie then enters the office. Philip says he was just getting ready to pick her up. Stephanie says she was in the area so she figured she’d save him the trouble and asks if it was a long day. Philip talks about clashing with Xander already and wishing he didn’t have to work with him, but there’s nothing he can do since he only controls 50% of the company. Stephanie remarks that it’s better than zero percent which is what he deserves. Philip questions her, so Stephanie reveals that she heard him on the phone that he’s been lying to everyone including her.

Xander complains to Sarah that Philip is going to ruin everything. Sarah asks what else he did besides share the office. Xander talks about working on a plan that would make Victor proud but Philip nixed the whole thing without even considering it. Sarah asks what the plan was. Xander reveals it was to obliterate the DiMeras.

Chad tells Julie that they don’t have to rush her to bed and they can stay here to catch up. Julie feels he must be tired but Chad says he’s good. Julie says he’s so kind to her and she knows he understands. Chad remembers how hard it was after Abigail died, to go crawl in to an empty bed. Chad states that Julie shared her bed with Doug for 50 years. Julie talks about a friend in California and when her husband died, she said she felt the absence of his presence every hour of every day. Julie says that those words are haunting her now. Julie feels she should’ve done more for Doug and should’ve seen that he was failing but he never complained and was always cheerful. Julie feels she should’ve seen he wasn’t doing well and taken him to the doctor. Julie asks if she just didn’t want to see it or if she is responsible because she wasn’t paying attention, but now it’s too late. Chad assures her that she was an incredible wife and Doug was lucky to have her. Chad says this feeling of not doing enough is just part of the grieving process as he felt the same thing after Abigail died, like he should’ve been able to prevent it or loved her more in what turned out to be her final days. Julie cries that Doug is gone and she can’t seem to figure out who she is now. Chad promises that she will and encourages her to just be patient. Chad adds that a lot of people love her and need her. Julie thanks him for saying that and says she will remember that. Julie adds that she’s always concerned about Chad, especially with what he went through lately in thinking Abigail was alive and grieving for her all over again. Chad responds that they don’t have to worry about that anymore because Cat Greene left town, so she’s gone.

Cat approaches Marlena in the town square and reminds Marlena of who she is. Marlena remembers Cat was pretending to be Abigail when they first met. Cat apologizes for that deception and says she’s ashamed. Marlena understands that Clyde pressured her in to doing that and they all know what he’s capable of and what that can do to a person. Cat thanks her for saying that. Cat hoped Marlena had a minute as she wanted to talk to her about her husband.

Holly tells Doug III that she wants to hear the full story. He admits that he lied about getting mugged and that those guys were collecting money that he owed their boss. Holly asks why they beat him up. He says it’s because he came up a lot short and that was their way of showing him they aren’t happy about it. Holly realizes that’s the real reason he didn’t want her to call the police. He tells her that there’s another problem and asks if he can trust her for real. Holly assures that he can. Doug III then reveals he did something awful and illegal to get the money he did have.

Julie asks Chad about Cat leaving Salem. Chad explains that she took her brother and sister to Vancouver to see her mom and she’s going to try to take care of her family and do the right thing. Julie says it’s late for that now and asks about Cat’s mother being in the mental institution. Chad says she will likely be there for awhile, so he doesn’t know when or if Cat will be back. Julie hopes she never comes back.

Marlena questions Cat wanting to talk about John. Cat clarifies that she wants to talk to John and asks if they can set up a time. Marlena informs her that John is away for awhile and they’re not sure when he will be around, but suggests maybe she could talk to her. Cat isn’t sure if Marlena is aware of her mother. Marlena acknowledges her as Konstantin’s daughter. Cat reveals that she just got back from visiting her in Vancouver and Catharina told her what really happened all those years ago in Greece, so she felt like she should relay that to John. Marlena says she’d like to hear that story herself and invites Cat to join her table.

Sarah asks Xander how he was going to obliterate the DiMeras. Xander says it was a hostile takeover and he had it all planned out but Philip felt it would affect Stephanie. Sarah says she can’t blame him for being concerned because she knows what it’s like to be collateral damage of Kristen DiMera. Xander insists he would’ve found a way to protect Sarah and complains that Philip has a problem with the way he does business and doesn’t like his tactics. Sarah asks what tactics those are.

Stephanie informs Philip that she heard him telling Kate how he forged the letter from Victor. Philip admits it and informs her that it was technically Vivian who forged it. Philip explains that Vivian tracked him down in New York and convinced him to stake his claim on the company. Stephanie asks if she forced him to go along with her wicked little scheme. Philip argues that Vivian was right that he deserves to run Titan and he truly believes that’s what Victor would have wanted. Stephanie argues that Victor would’ve wrote the letter then, put him in his will, or found some other way but he didn’t. Stephanie declares that this means Titan belongs to Xander and that Philip is a total fraud. Philip thinks that’s a bit harsh. Philip argues that everyone knows he was Victor’s heir apparent. Stephanie says he still committed fraud upon a court. Stephanie can’t believe Belle helped him pull it off. Philip assures she had no idea the letter was fake. Stephanie says people will believe she knew and it could ruin Belle’s career and her career too.

Sarah asks Xander about his tactics. Xander admits that in order to get his hands on DiMera, he would have to bend the rules slightly and break the law a little. Xander argues that it’s nothing Kristen wouldn’t do and brings up Philip laundering Ava’s mob money through Titan before, but now he has a problem with how he does things. Sarah tells Xander that she doesn’t like it either.

Holly asks Doug III if he stole the money. He says sort of which she questions. Doug III brings up the diamond necklace from the time capsule. Holly thought Julie’s brother Steven stole it. Doug III reveals that’s what everyone thinks, but it was him who stole it.

Julie feels Chad is not as negative about Cat Greene as she is. Chad says he hates what she did but guesses he started to see her in a different light when they were in Vancouver. Chad says he saw the connection she had with her mother and it made it hard to ignore that she was just a girl trying to save her mother’s life. Chad acknowledges that Clyde put her in an impossible position. Julie still thinks she could’ve handled things differently. Chad states that Cat felt bad and thinks her remorse was genuine. Julie asks if he’s forgiven her. Chad wouldn’t say that, but he understands her actions a bit more. Chad admits they had a pretty good chat before she left and he told her that he was happy she would be able to reunite with her family. Julie questions if Chad is having feelings for Cat.

Cat explains to Marlena that Catharina recently learned that John had been blaming himself for her supposed death all those years ago, but John actually saved her from a terrible situation which Marlena asks about. Cat informs her that her grandmother Elizabeth was trapped in an abusive marriage to Konstantin and she was desperate to leave but knew he’d never let her go, so she reached out to Victor who sent John to Greece to fake Catharina’s death. Cat adds that once that happened, Elizabeth was able to leave Konstantin and secretly raise her daughter in the States, so thanks to John, they were both able to escape the horrible abusive situation. Marlena realizes that John was actually there to help. Cat confirms that John saved Catharina’s life and calls him a hero. Marlena calls this such important information and says that John will be so relieved to hear it. Cat says that he has her mom’s eternal gratitude. Marlena thanks Cat for sharing that story. Cat says she’s just relieved to be lifting someone’s spirits for a change.

Chad tells Julie that Cat has been through a lot and he does feel bad for her for what Clyde put her through, but he wouldn’t say they are friends as what she did was still terrible even if she was being blackmailed. Chad acknowledges that Cat hurt him badly and he will never forget that. Chad assures Julie that nothing is going to happen between he and Cat.

Holly questions Doug III stealing from Julie. He tells her how guilty he felt, especially since Julie has been so kind to him. He says he thought about giving the necklace back but he needed the money fast, so he had someone sell it. Holly points out that the necklace is gone for good and Julie thinks her brother is responsible. Doug III says he can’t come clean because he can’t live with Julie knowing that he screwed her over since he really cares about her and she cares about him because he reminds her of Doug. He declares that he can’t tell Julie the truth and he really hopes Holly doesn’t either.

Sarah tells Xander that doing something that might land him in prison is not okay with her as he needs to be here for her and Victoria. Xander assures that nothing is more important to him than they are and he wants them to be proud of him. Xander promises that from here on out, he’s devoting his life to earning her love and respect. Sarah promises that she will devote her life from here on out to keeping him in line. Xander calls her the expert at that as they kiss.

Stephanie asks Philip if it never occurred to him that if people found out about his fraud, they might think she was in on it and helping deceive the public in to believing that he was a poor victim deprived of his birth right. Philip argues that he was and if he overcame his demons sooner, Victor would have given him the company. Stephanie calls that speculation and says the will is solid which means Philip stole the company from Xander. Philip complains that Xander deserved it as he’s not an upstanding guy either. Stephanie argues that she never would’ve done PR for him if she knew he was pulling this scheme. Stephanie accuses Philip of using her. Philip asks if they can talk about this over dinner. Stephanie tells him there is no dinner and declares they are through, professionally and personally. Philip questions her seriously breaking things off over this. Stephanie questions him thinking it’s no big deal that he stole a company through a fraud. Stephanie calls it a felony and complains that he pulled her and Belle in to it. Stephanie calls him the same Philip who would go to any extremes for his family’s company and the same Philip who almost got her killed. Stephanie says she’ll be damned if she lets that happen again. Philip accuses her of just making up excuses because she never wanted their relationship to work in the first place since she still wants to be with Alex. Stephanie tells him to stop with that. Philip brings up Stephanie dreaming about Alex this morning and says if she’s going to end things between them, she could at least be honest about why. Stephanie says he’s the one who has a problem with honesty, not her. Stephanie tells him to believe whatever the hell he wants because she’s done here as she then storms out of the office.

Sarah tells Xander that her job at home is to keep him in line but says she wants to go back at work at the hospital since she is back on her feet. Sarah feels it’s time to start seeing patients. Xander calls that great news and he’s delighted that she’s feeling up to it. Sarah decides she will go talk to Kayla about it tonight. They kiss before Sarah goes.

Marlena asks Cat what her plan is and if she’s going back to Vancouver. Cat reveals she plans to stay in Salem and that her brother Aaron is going to stay with their mom in Vancouver, since he had enough credits to graduate early. Cat notes that she will stay in Salem to take care of their little sister Felicity which Marlena calls a big responsibility. Cat says she will figure it out and her first order of business is finding a job. Marlena informs Cat that her assistant is moving away so they are looking for her replacement and asks if that would interest her. Cat says that would be amazing and asks if she would really consider that. Marlena believes in second chances and says she’d have to run it by Kayla. Marlena tells Cat to call her office in the morning to set up an interview. Cat thanks her and says she has no idea how much this means to her.

Chad tells Julie that he’s supposed to be the one comforting her. Julie says comforting him comforts her. Chad gets a text from the Spectator that there’s an issue with tomorrow’s paper so he has to go. Julie says she will look after the kids and tells him to go. Chad tells Julie that after Abigail died, he found it helped when he talked to Marlena, so maybe she could do the same. Julie agrees to think about it as Chad then exits.

Doug III asks if Holly won’t rat him out. Holly says she promised not to say a word so she will stick to that. Doug III thanks her. Holly says she doesn’t approve of what he did but she gets that his life was in danger. He says it still is as he needs to find a way to pay back what he owes or else next time, those guys will do more than just beat him up. Doug III says he needs to find a job to pay them back as quick as he can, but it will take forever and he’s not dealing with patient people. Holly asks what if she gave him the money. He calls that such a kind offer but doesn’t think she understands how much he owes. Holly informs him that her Grandmother is super rich, so she could ask for a loan and come up with a reason. He says he can’t ask her to lie to her Grandma. Holly says he’s not asking, she’s offering. He questions why she would do that for him when they barely know each other. Holly says he’s been there for her through this drama with Tate and she likes him so she doesn’t want to see him die, so they have no other choice. Doug III says they have to agree that he will pay her back but it will take some time. They shake hands on the deal. Holly says now she will try to get the blood out of his shirt and exits the room.

Julie starts to go upstairs but stops and decides not tonight, so she heads back to the living room to sleep on the couch.

Cat finishes a call about Felicity and then runs in to Chad in the town square.

Marlena calls Shane and says she knows that John is deep undercover, but asks if he could get her in touch with John because there’s something really important that he needs to know.

Xander opens his laptop and says he’ll have to find another way to raise Titan’s profits with Philip’s approval. Xander looks to the portrait of Victor and says all of this is his fault as none of this would be happening if he hadn’t written that damn letter.

Philip calls Stephanie and leaves a message, saying he’s sorry about their fight and he understands why she doesn’t want to see him anymore, but asks her to call him back right away because he needs to know she won’t tell anyone about the letter being forged.

Stephanie goes to the hospital looking for Kayla but finds Sarah, who says that she was told that Kayla left. Sarah asks if Stephanie is alright.

TV Review of “Shifting Gears”

TV Review!

DARYL "CHILL" MITCHELL, SEANN WILLIAM SCOTT, MAXWELL SIMKINS, BARRETT MARGOLIS, TIM ALLEN, KAT DENNINGS SHIFTING GEARS – ABC’s “Shifting Gears” stars Daryl “Chill” Mitchell as Stitch, Seann William Scott as Gabriel, Maxwell Simkins as Carter, Barrett Margolis as Georgia, Tim Allen as Matt, and Kat Dennings as Riley. (Disney/Justin Stephens)

“Shifting Gears” on ABC Review by Suzanne 1//10/25

First, I have to admit that I’m not a fan of Tim Allen, and that was true long before he became vocal about his conservatism. I just never found his brand of humor funny in either “Home Improvement” or “Last Man Standing.”  He was much better in his movies, such as “Galaxy Quest,” “The Santa Clause” and the “Toy Story” franchise.

To be fair, comedians and actors are only as good as the writing. Allen wrote the first sitcom, but not the second, and he’s not a writer on this series, either.  It was created by husband-wife writing team Mike Scully and Julie Thacker-Scully, who previously wrote for “The Simpsons” and “Parks and Rec.” I just don’t think this comedy they wrote is very funny (which is the main prerequisite for a sitcom). The characters are fine, but the jokes are very predictable: Tim Allen’s character, Matt, is at odds with his daughter, Riley (Kat Dennings). They argue about everything. In between their arguing, Matt says a lot of lame right wing comments that are, I guess, supposed to make us laugh (whether we’re laughing at him, or his jobs, I’m not so sure).  The acting is fine, but the actors aren’t given much to work with, comedically-speaking.

Now, the show does have a lot of heart, which is the only thing that works at all.  Both Riley and her dad are still mourning Riley’s mom, who died suddenly. The feelings between them, and about the late wife, feel very real.  Perhaps they should have made this a drama instead.

One thing that I found interesting is that Matt is a toned-down version of Allen’s previous characters. His right-wing rants are not nearly as bad as they were in “Last Man Standing.” Also, the show seems to be more of an ensemble show than “Home Improvement.”  Riley has two children that enjoy spending time with their grandpa. Matt runs an auto body shop, where we quickly see a potential love interest for Riley is Gabriel (Seann William Scott). The only bright spot among the cast, besides Dennings (who’s wasted here), is Daryl Chill Mitchell (Stich), who doesn’t look like he ever ages. He’s funnier than the others in this show.

This show has an interesting concept: Amy Larsen, a middle-aged doctor and Chief of Internal Medicine (played by Molly Parker) seems to care more about figuring out medical mysteries at her Midwestern hospital than being nice to patients or co-workers (shades of “House!”); then she gets into a terrible car accident in the rain. When she wakes up, she doesn’t remember the last 8 years of her life. On the one hand, she seems to be a much nicer person, but she also doesn’t remember a lot of bad things that happened, such as her young son’s death, and divorcing her husband, Michael (Omar Metwally) – who’s also her boss. She has to learn all of that and deal with it. She also doesn’t remember that she and her daughter are at odds, or that she’s in love with one of the other doctors, Jake Heller (Jon Ecker), who’s younger and very handsome.

Scott Wolf (“Night Shift,” “Nancy Drew”) has a small role as a doctor that she’s had problems with. He’s clearly supposed to be  incompetent, or worse. When she’s injured, he’s made interim Chief of Internal Medicine, much to his weaselly relief.

I have to admit that, while I find the show intriguing and will keep watching it, I think that Parker was miscast. She’s a very good actress (and she’s been in many movies and shows, so she’s also very experienced), but she seems very bland to me and doesn’t have a ton of chemistry with anyone.  Her character appears to be very unlikable as well (even when we see her nicer version).  The actors around her have much more charisma, in my opinion. Perhaps she will grow on me. I hope so because I enjoy medical dramas.

Key art for "Doc" on FOXMORE INFORMATION: Official Website Trailer

Inspired by a true story and based on the hit eponymous Italian drama series, Doc is a new life-affirming medical drama, starring Emmy nominee Molly Parker (House of Cards) as hard-charging, brilliant Chief of Internal Medicine Dr. Amy Larsen, who suffers a brain injury that erases the last eight years of her memory.

After a late-night car crash results in severe head trauma, Amy wakes up from surgery with no recollection of the patients she’s treated, the colleagues she’s crossed and the tragedy that caused her to push almost everyone away. The relief that Amy gets from seeing her family post-accident is fleeting when she learns the incomprehensible – that she and her beloved husband, Dr. Michael Hamda (Omar Metwally, Big SkyLisey’s Story) have been divorced for four years. In fact, her entire family is not at all as she remembers them, rocking her foundation to the core.

Amy’s best friend, neuropsychiatrist Dr. Gina Walker (Amirah Vann, A Jazzman’s BluesHow To Get Away With Murder), has little guidance to give her for this new reality since matters of the brain are, even to the experts, still a big mystery. While Gina is hopeful, she does not know if Amy will ever recover her memories. In Amy’s fragile state, Gina must choose carefully what information from the past eight years to reveal to her, scared that too much too soon could prove more harmful than good. This includes her secret romance with Dr. Jake Heller (Jon Ecker, The Watchful EyeFirefly Lane), since Amy now has no recollection of ever meeting him before, let alone being in a passionate relationship with him. Certain other memories, those close to her believe, would perhaps be too painful to relive and are best left forgotten.

In a fateful irony, that’s the fervent hope for Amy’s colleague, Dr. Richard Miller (guest star Scott Wolf, Nancy DrewParty of Five), who has now been promoted to take over as Chief of Internal Medicine after Amy’s accident. Richard is desperate for Amy’s memories to never return since she was the only person to uncover his career-ending mistake – another thing she now doesn’t recall. And Richard isn’t alone in relishing Amy’s predicament – her previously contentious and unkind behavior left her with more than a few enemies at the hospital, including Dr. Sonya Maitra (Anya Banerjee, The Blacklist). While she does remember Dr. TJ Coleman (guest star Patrick Walker, Lessons In Chemistry), she does not recall that he became a doctor – nor that it was she who inspired him to do so.

Feeling completely off balance and having to piece together what happened through the prism of other people’s subjective points of view, practicing medicine remains the one constant for Amy, and she is determined to become a doctor again. While she may never get back what she’s lost, Amy knows she’s been given a second chance to do things differently and she will not take that gift for granted.

Doc is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and FOX Entertainment Studios. Barbie Kligman serves as showrunner and executive producer. Hank Steinberg, Erwin Stoff and Judith McCreary are executive producers. Doc is based on the globally acclaimed Italian series, Doc — Nelle tue mani, which was created and is produced by Lux Vide, a Fremantle Company.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[somber music]

Hey. Julie, what are you doing sitting in the dark?

Oh, um, I dozed off.

Well, it’s late. Why don’t we get you upstairs to go to bed?

I should do that.

I dread going upstairs. I put it off as long as I can.

Yeah, I understand that.

Well, Doug isn’t there. It’s lonely. It’s lonely.

OK, I’m going to go throw this in the wash, but first, I need you to tell me the truth. I mean, I backed you up with my Aunt Sarah, so I need you to tell me the real reason why you didn’t want me to call the police.

[soft dramatic music]

Well, you may not know this unless word got around, but I had a run-in with the police before coming to Salem.

Oh, I didn’t know. What kind of run-in?

I was involved in this stupid bar fight, and I ended up in jail just for a few days. But given my recent brush with the law, I didn’t want to risk getting in trouble again.

How would you get in trouble? I mean, God, you were the victim. You were mugged. At least, that’s what you claimed. But something’s telling me there’s more to this story.

Even though I hated the idea of splitting Titan with Philip, I was holding onto just the slightest glimmer of hope that it wouldn’t be so awful, but today, Sarah, was a disaster.

How so?

Well, first, he comes charging into my office, demanding that it should be his. I wasn’t going to move into the puny, little office down the hall. So he compromised by dragging in the other desk into the office and just sharing the bloody thing.

So you’re telling me that you and Philip, on your very first day of working together, are already having major problems.

It’s hardly a surprise. Arrogant bastard’s going to undermine every decision that I make.

Well, honey, you’re really going to have to get used to it because the judge did give him half the company.

I’m well aware. And all because of that stupid bloody letter.

Mom, would you relax?

All is well. Yeah, Xander and I are off to a kind of rocky start, but no worse than I expected. No, there is no way he’s going to find out the letter dad supposedly wrote me was a forgery, so don’t worry about it, OK? Xander has no clue the letter isn’t the real deal. And at this point, he has no reason to question it. As far as he and everyone else is concerned, my claim on Titan is completely legit.

[soft orchestration]

announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Mom, I should go. I have dinner plans with Stephanie. Love you too. Bye.

[phone beeps]

Knock, knock.

Hey, Steph. I was just getting ready to pick you up.

Oh, well, I was already in the area, so I thought I’d save you the trouble. Long day at the office?

Uh, not too bad. Just getting up to speed, although Xander and I did clash over the direction of the company.

Right. Well, that’s to be expected, no?

Yeah, but still, wish to hell I didn’t have to work with him.

I get that.

But there’s nothing I can do, obviously, since I only control 50% of the company.

Well, that’s better than 0%, isn’t it?

Mm-hmm.

Which is what you deserve.

[tense music]

What?

I heard you on the phone just now, Philip. You’ve been lying to everyone, including me.

Wow. You are tense. You have a huge knot right here.

Yeah, well, that one has Philip’s name all over it. Bastard’s going to ruin everything.

Everything? Come on, baby. Besides making you share the office, what else did he do?

Well, I’ve been working on this great plan, one that could really change the game for Titan. I know Victor would have been proud. But without even considering it, Philip nixed the whole thing.

What was the plan?

Obliterating our biggest competitor, the DiMeras.

[tense music]

OK. Well, know what then? We don’t have to rush up to bed. Why don’t we stay down here? We can– we can catch up.

You must be tired.

I’m good.

You’re so kind to me, Chad. But then I know you understand.

Yeah, I do. I remember, after Abby died, how hard it was, especially in the beginning, to go and crawl into an empty bed.

[somber music] And for you, I mean, you shared this bed for 50 years with this man.

[sighs]

Shared your life.

I have a girlfriend in California, known each other for years. We keep in touch by phone. And when her husband died, she called and told me she felt, every hour of every day, the absence of his presence. Her words, they’re haunting me now. Chad, I should’ve done more for him.

What? No, hey, what do you mean?

Oh, the weeks, the days before he– before Jack couldn’t wake him up, I should have seen that Doug was failing. But you know him. He never complained.

He was always cheerful. But I should have seen that he wasn’t doing well. I should have just taken him to the doctor. Did I not see because I didn’t want to see? Am I responsible because I wasn’t paying attention? I mean, I missed my cue. Now it’s too late.

Julie, hey, look at me. You were an incredible wife.

[gasps]

That man was lucky to have you. OK? And this feeling of not doing enough…

It’s just– I don’t know. It’s got to be a part of the grieving process. I mean, it’s got to be. I felt the same thing after Abby died, you know? That feeling of– like I should have been able to prevent it, you know? Or I should have– I should have loved her more or harder, you know? In those– and then what turned out to be her final days, I–

So it’s part of the grieving process. I had no idea.

It’s just that I was his partner. I was his wife. He’s gone, and I don’t know who I am now. I– I can’t seem to figure it out.

Yeah, I know. But you will. You will. I promise you. You just got to be patient. There’s a lot of people that love you. There’s a lot of people that need you.

[sighs]

Thank you. I mean, thank you for saying that. And I will remember that. I will. And, sweetheart, I– I’m always concerned about you, especially what you’ve gone through lately. I mean, thinking that Abigail was alive and losing her again because it was a lie and grieving for her all over again.

Yeah. But you know what? We won’t have to worry about that anymore. Cat Greene, she left town. She’s gone.

[relaxed acoustic music]

Um, Dr. Evans? Hi. Um, I don’t know if you remember me. I’m Cat Greene. Dr. Johnson introduced us once.

I do remember you. You were pretending to be Abigail Deveraux at the time.

Yes, I apologize for that deception, and I’m sorry and quite ashamed, frankly.

[chuckles]

I understand that Clyde Weston had pressured you into doing that. We all know what he’s capable of and what that can do to a person.

Thank you for saying that. I– I really appreciate it. I– I actually was hoping that you had a minute. I wanted to talk to you about your husband.

[tense music]

OK, you’ve had a little time to clean up, so I want to hear the full story.

OK.

[soft dramatic music] You’re right. I lied about getting mugged. Those guys at the park, they were collecting money that I owed their boss.

Well, if you gave them the money, why did they beat you up?

Because I came up a little short– actually, a lot short. And this was their way of showing me that they’re not happy about it.

Hmm. So I take it the person you borrowed money from isn’t very reputable.

It wasn’t Salem Bank. That’s for sure. They don’t usually send goons to collect.

So that’s the real reason why you didn’t want me to call the police.

Partly, yes. But there’s another problem. The money that I was able to scrape together– Holly, can I trust you– like, for real?

Yeah, of course.

I did something pretty awful to get that money– something illegal.

[sighs] So Cat Greene left Salem.

Yep. Yeah, she, uh– she took her brother and sister to Vancouver to see their mom. She’s going to– she’s going to try to take care of her family and do the right thing.

[chuckles] A little late for that now. How about her mother? Is– is she in police custody still?

Yeah. Between her legal situation and her mental state, she’s going to be there for a while. I don’t know if or when Cat will be back.

With luck, never.

You want to talk about John?

Actually, I was hoping to talk to John. Maybe you could give me his number so that I could set up a time to stop by and see him, if that’s not too much to ask.

Well, John is away for a while. We’re not sure when– when, uh, he’ll be around. So maybe you could talk to me.

OK. I don’t know if you’re aware of who my mother is.

Yes. She’s Konstantin’s daughter.

Yes. I just got back from being with her in Vancouver, and she told me what really happened in Greece all those years ago, and I felt that I should relay that to your husband.

Oh. Actually, I would like to hear that story myself. Why don’t you join me? Please.

[relaxed acoustic music]

So how exactly were you going to obliterate the DiMeras?

It was a hostile takeover. And I had it all planned out, but then Philip gave me some song and dance about how it might affect Stephanie because they’re an item again.

Yeah, I know. She was here earlier.

Supposedly, she got caught in the middle the last time our family had a big feud with the DiMeras, and, of course, Philip didn’t have it in him to protect her.

You know, I can’t blame him for being concerned. I know firsthand what it’s like to be collateral damage at the hands of Kristen DiMera.

I would have found a way to protect you and our whole family. But– but it’s not even about Philip nixing this one plan. It’s that going to do it over and over again because apparently now he has a problem with the way I do business. He doesn’t like my tactics.

And what tactics are those?

[dramatic music]

Listen. I don’t know what you heard.

Don’t you dare try to wriggle your way out of this. I heard you talking to your mom about how you forged that letter from Victor.

OK. It’s true. Though, technically, I didn’t forge it. It was Vivian.

[exhales sharply] Vivian?

She tracked me down in New York and convinced me to stake my claim on the company. It was all her idea.

Oh. And did she force you to go along with her wicked, little scheme?

No. But, Steph, when it comes down to it, she was right. I deserve to run Titan. I truly believe that’s what my father would have wanted.

Then he would have written an actual letter, or he would have put you in his will, or he would have found some other way to make his wishes known, but he didn’t, which means Titan belongs to Xander, and you’re a total fraud.

I think “fraud” is a bit harsh. Everyone knows, from the day I was born, I was Victor’s heir apparent. The only reason I wasn’t was because of extenuating circumstances.

Still, you committed a fraud upon the court. And, oh, my God, I can’t believe Belle helped you pull it off.

Believe me, Steph. She had no idea the letter was a fake.

People will assume that she knew, and it could still ruin her career. And damn it, Philip, it could ruin mine too.

[dramatic music]

Now, tell me about those tactics of yours that Philip isn’t crazy about.

[sighs]

Xander, tell me.

OK, in order to get my hands on DiMera, I was just going to have to bend the rules slightly.

You mean break the law.

Just a little bit. Look, it’s nothing Kristen wouldn’t do.

Oh, my God. That is the lowest bar ever.

It’s not just Kristen. What about Philip? Last time he was CEO, he was laundering Ava’s mob money through the company. But now, all of a sudden, he has a problem with the way I want to do things.

Well, he’s not the only one. I don’t like it either.

[soft dramatic music]

OK. How did you get the money? Did you steal it?

Sort of.

What do you mean, sort of?

Well, I don’t know if you heard, but Julie recently discovered a diamond necklace that belonged to her grandmother. It was in a time capsule.

Oh, uh, yeah, I think my Grandma Maggie and Aunt Sarah said it was super expensive. Wait, I thought it was Julie’s brother, Steven, who stole it when he was in town for your grandfather’s funeral.

Yeah, that’s what everyone thinks, but it wasn’t Steven. That was me.

I get the feeling you’re not quite as negative about Cat Greene as I am.

Look, I mean, you know I hate what she did.

But?

But I– I– I guess I started to see her in a different light when we were in Vancouver. I mean, I saw the connection that she had with her mother, and I– and, you know, made it hard to ignore that she was just a girl trying to save her mother’s life. I mean, Clyde put her in an impossible position. He’s done the same to me.

Still, I think she could have handled things a little differently.

I agree, but she felt bad about it. And I think her remorse was genuine.

You’ve forgiven her?

No, I wouldn’t– I wouldn’t say that. But I do understand her actions a bit more now.

Mm.

We had a pretty good chat before she left. I told her I was happy for her that she was going to be able to reunite with her family.

[chuckles] Mm-mm, are you having feelings for this woman?

My mother recently learned that John was blaming himself for her supposed death all those years ago. And she was really worried because John actually rescued her from a really bad situation.

Really? How so?

Well, my grandmother, Elizabeth, was trapped in a marriage– a very abusive marriage to Konstantin. She was desperate to leave, but she knew he was never going to let her get away with my mom, her daughter. So she reached out to Victor Kiriakis for help. He sent John to Greece to fake my mother’s death.

[relaxed acoustic music]

John thought that he was there to give Konstantin a warning, and that– that went awry.

That was the cover. But he actually helped make it look like my mother had died. And once that happened, my grandmother, Elizabeth, was able to leave Konstantin and secretly raise her daughter in the States. So thanks to John, my grandmother and my mom– they were both able to escape a horribly abusive situation.

So John was actually there to help.

He didn’t just help. He saved her life. Your husband’s a hero.

[tender music]

[tender music]

This is such important information. John is going to be so relieved to hear it.

Well, my mom wants him to know he has her eternal gratitude.

I’ll pass that along. And thank you for sharing your mother’s story.

To be honest, after all the pain and suffering I’ve caused in this town, I’m just relieved to be lifting someone’s spirits for a change.

– Look,

Cat’s been through a lot, and I– and I do feel bad for her. I mean, she suffered at the hands of Clyde, just like so many of us have. But to say that we’re– we’re friends, let alone anything more than that– what she did to me and to our family was terrible, even if she was being blackmailed.

She hurt you badly.

Yeah, she did. And I haven’t forgotten that. Nor will I ever. Like I said, don’t worry. OK? Nothing is going to happen between me and Cat Greene.

[soft dramatic music]

– Hold up. You stole from Julie, your grandfather’s widow?

You have no idea how guilty I felt, especially getting to know her. She’s been so kind to me. And I thought about giving the necklace back, but I needed the money, and I needed it fast. So despite my misgivings, I had someone sell it for me.

Which means the necklace is gone for good, and Julie thinks her brother’s responsible for it. Doug, unless you come clean–

I can’t. I can’t come clean. And it’s not that I’m worried about getting arrested. I can live with that. But I cannot live with Julie knowing that I screwed her over. I really, really care about her, and I’m pretty sure that she cares about me because I remind her of my grandfather.

I can’t tell her the truth, Holly. And I really hope you don’t either.

Xander, doing something that might land you in prison is not OK with me. You need to be here for me and Victoria.

I will be. Sarah, trust me. Nothing is more important than you and our daughter. And I want– I want you and– and Victoria to be proud of me.

You say that so often.

And I mean it. I promise you, from here on out, I’m devoting my life to not just earning your love, but your respect. I hope you can believe that.

I do. I do. And I promise that I will devote my life from here on out to keeping you in line.

Well, you are the expert at that.

I really am.

[tender music]

Did it never occur to you, Philip, that had people found out that you were committing fraud that they might think that I was in on it, that– that maybe I was helping to deceive the public into thinking that you were this poor victim who was wrongly deprived of his birthright?

But I was. If I had overcome my demons just a few months sooner, it would have changed everything. My dad would have left me in charge. I just–

That is pure speculation. And you know that will is solid, meaning you stole half the company from Xander.

Well, he deserved to have it stolen from him. I mean, it’s not like Xander is some upstanding guy either.

That is irrelevant. Damn it, Philip, I never would have done PR for you had I known that you were trying to pull this scheme.

[tense music] You used me.

[sighs]

No, no, Steph. Look… Let’s talk about this over dinner.

Oh, there is no dinner. In fact, you and I are through, Philip– professionally and personally.

You can’t do this. You’re not seriously going to break things off with me over this.

What? What? You think It’s no big deal that you stole a company through fraud? My God, Philip, it’s a felony. And you brought Belle and me into it.

[tense music] Because you are the same old Philip, who would go to any extreme for the sake of his family’s company, the same Philip who almost got me killed. And I’ll be damned if I ever let that happen again.

You know what I think?

You’re just making excuses. You never wanted this relationship to work in the first place because you really want to be with Alex.

Oh, would you stop with that?

You sure were dreaming about him this morning. So if you’re going to end things between us, at least be honest about why.

You’re the one who has a problem with honesty, not me. You can believe whatever the hell you want to, Philip. I’m done here.

[tender music]

Now that we have established what my job is here at home, keeping you in line–

Pretty full-time, I’d say.

Well, hopefully it can be part-time because I very much would like to get back to my very real paying job. Baby, I’m going to go back to work.

Haven’t you already been doing some research for Kayla?

Yeah, yeah, I have. I have. But I– I want to– I want to be in the trenches again, you know? Especially because I’m, like, literally back up on my feet again, it’s time to start seeing patients.

Oh, that’s great news.

Mm-hmm.

And I’m just delighted that you’re feeling up to it.

Yeah, I do. In fact, I think I’m going to go talk to Kayla tonight and drop off the research I did for her, just kill two birds with one stone.

Well, before you go on this big bird-killing spree, I was wondering if maybe I could get one more kiss?

[sighs] Oh, God, I guess that could be arranged.

[laughs]

What are your plans now? Are you going to go back to Vancouver and be with your mother?

I’m actually going to be here. My brother Aaron is going to stay with my mother. He’s a little bit of an overachiever. He already has enough credits to graduate early. He doesn’t have to finish his last semester. So I’m going to stick around Salem and take care of my little sister Felicity, who’s still in high school.

Wow. That’s a big responsibility.

It is, but I’ll figure it out. First order of business is finding a job.

Hmm. My assistant is moving away. We’re looking for her replacement. Would that interest you?

[soft dramatic music]

That would be amazing. You would really consider that?

I believe in second chances. Of course, I would have to run it by Dr. Johnson.

Absolutely. Of course. I understand.

All righty, then. Why don’t you call my office in the morning and set up an interview?

I will do that. Thank you so much, Dr. Evans. I’m– you have no idea how much this means to me.

Yeah, I’m supposed to be the one comforting you.

You know, when I try to comfort you, it always comforts me. So you should know that by now.

[phone beeps]

Sorry.

Mm-hmm.

Ah, it’s “The Spectator.” There’s an issue with tomorrow’s paper. Damn. I got to go in.

It’s OK. I’ll look after the kids.

Are you going to be OK?

I’m fine. Just go, go, go.

OK. Um, after Abby died, I found that it helped when I talked to Marlena. So maybe you could do the same.

I’ll think about it.

You won’t rat me out, will you?

[exhales] I promised I wouldn’t say a word, so I’ll stick to that.

My God. Thank you, Holly.

Not that I approve of what you did. But I get it. Your life was in danger.

Yeah, and it still is. I need to find a way to pay back the rest of what I owe. Otherwise, next time, those guys are going to do a lot worse than just beat me up.

Well, can you ask your dad for the money?

No. No, we don’t get along. I’m going to have to get a job and just try to save as much money as quickly as I can, but the problem is that’s going to take forever. And I don’t– I’m not dealing with patient people, as you can see.

What if there was another solution?

What if I gave you the money?

Holly, that’s such a kind offer, but I don’t think you understand how much I really owe. I’m pretty sure it’s more than your weekly allowance.

Yeah, I get that, but as you can tell, my grandma’s, like, super rich. I don’t know. I could ask her for, like, a loan.

Well, how would you explain what it’s for?

I’ll come up with something.

I can’t. I can’t ask you to lie to your grandmother.

I’m not asking. I’m offering.

[soft dramatic music]

Why would you do that for me? We barely know each other.

True. But you’ve been there for me through all this drama with Tate, and I kind of like you, and I don’t really want to see you die, so…

I don’t really want that either.

Then what other choice do we have?

Look, if I accept your help, we have to agree that I will pay you back. It’s just going to take some time.

OK, deal.

OK.

OK. Now that that’s settled, I’m going to try to get this blood out of your shirt. I’ll be right back. Whew.

[somber music]

No. Not tonight.

[chuckles] You’re so amazing, Mrs. Brown. Thank you again for offering to help with Felicity while I find a job. I already have a lead on one, which is awesome. So it shouldn’t take too long. Yeah, I just– I just hate the idea of her being by herself for hours and hours at a time, so…

[laughs] Well, Felicity is pretty crazy about you too. Yeah. OK, thank you. Talk soon. Bye.

[phone beeps] Oh.

Shane, I know that John is deep undercover, but could you possibly get me in touch with him? There’s something really important he needs to know.

[dramatic music]

I guess I’ll have to find some other way to raise Titan’s profits– pending Philip’s approval, of course.

This is all thanks to you, Father. None of this would be happening if you hadn’t written that damn letter.

Look, Steph, it’s me. I’m sorry about our fight. And I understand why you don’t want to see me anymore. But when you get this message, please call me back right away.

I need to know you won’t tell anyone about that letter being forged.

Stephanie, we meet again. Are you looking for your mom?

Yeah. Is she here?

Uh, no. I was told she left. You all right?

[sighs] Not really. Philip and I just got in a huge fight…

About your husband.

Xander? I mean, I know he and Philip got into an argument. I was really kind of hoping that they would keep each other’s worst instincts in check, but I don’t know if this co-CEO thing is a good idea.

No, It’s not. In fact, it’s a fiasco because Philip has no business being CEO in the first place.

Brady said it wouldn’t be easy, but he had faith in him. He told Tate to let Holly know that he cared about her. Tate said things would have been over with if Sophia’s mother didn’t find out. He blamed Ava for saying something to her. Brady said it wasn’t Ava’s fault. Tate said he didn’t understand how this happened when he and Sophia used protection. Brady said the situation wasn’t easy for him either. When Tate was about to go see Holly, Amy (Sophia’s mother) showed up. Brady said he asked her to come over so they could talk. When Tate wanted to leave, Amy asked him to stay. Brady didn’t know where to begin their talk. Amy said they could start with planning the wedding. Brady was shocked, but Tate said he wasn’t marrying Sophia. Amy said that he and Sophia were minors so what they wanted and what was right were two different things. Brady said marriage was the best solution for them. Amy said abortion wasn’t the best solution either. She said this wasn’t what she wanted for Sophia, but she wasn’t going to forget her beliefs. Brady told her things didn’t have to change. She said she wasn’t changing her mind about her beliefs and was doing what was best for Sophia and the baby. Brady said if Sophia kept the baby, he and Tate would do their best to provide for her. Amy said that was the least they could do before she left. Tate thanked Brady for having his back to which Brady said he always would. He said he had to see Holly. Sophia showed up at the Kiriakis mansion to see Holly. She apologized to Holly and said she never meant for this to happen. Holly appreciated her apology. When she asked Sophia how she was, Sophia said she was sick and gaining weight. Holly realized Sophia was still pregnant. Sophia said she thought Tate told her that her mother stopped them from going to get the abortion. Holly said Tate didn’t tell her. Sophia said her mother was making her and Tate get married.

Ava went to the DiMera mansion to demand a confession from Kristen. Kristen brought up the texts Ava received. Ava told her the texts were traced to the mansion. Rachel was listening to their conversation from the door. Kristen said anyone could have sent the texts. She came up with reasons why Johnny, Chanel, and EJ could have sent the texts. Ava said Kristen was the one who didn’t like her dating Brady. When she ripped into Kristen, Rachel walked in and told her to leave her mother alone. She wanted her to stop bullying her mother and demanded that she leave. Kristen sided with Rachel and ordered Ava out. If Ava kept harassing her, Kristen said she would call the police. When Ava walked out, Kristen asked if Rachel sent the texts. Rachel admitted to sending the texts to help her and Brady get back together. Kristen told Rachel not to send anymore texts and told her not to threaten anyone. Rachel reminded her that she and other people did it. Kristen said the family did it but it wasn’t right. She didn’t want Rachel to make enemies. Rachel was shocked that she had to give Kristen her phone. Kristen said they were changing the WiFi password so she couldn’t use anything else. Ava went to see Brady. They wished each other Happy New Year. He told her about his conversation with Amy. Ava blamed herself for what happened. Brady said it wasn’t her fault. When he suggested they change the subject, she said her conversation wouldn’t be any better. She said she was still getting texts and went to talk to Kristen. Brady said he would take care of it. Tate found Holly at the park. When he was about to apologize, she said she already knew what he was going to say. Holly said she felt like an idiot because he didn’t tell her the truth. Tate said he couldn’t figure out what to say. He said he and Sophia weren’t getting married and said it would be over in nine months. Holly said it was never going to be over. Brady went to see Kristen and warned her to stop sending the texts. He said he would sue her for harassment if she didn’t stop. While Brady was yelling at her, Kristen cut him off to tell him Rachel sent the texts.

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Holly found Doug III beat up in the park. He lied to her and told her the men who attacked him tried to mug him. Doug III tried to stop her from calling the police. Holly helped him up and wanted to take to someone who was trustworthy. Stephanie arrived at the Kiriakis mansion with headshots for Bonnie to sign. Sarah let her know that Bonnie wasn’t home. They ended up talking about their men working together. Stephanie hoped the arrangement worked out for Xander and Philip. Sarah realized that Victor’s letter sealed the deal. She thought it was good that they were working together because they could help each other. Holly brought Doug III to the mansion so Sarah could help him. Sarah examined him. Holly lied about them calling the police and that they didn’t go to the hospital because he didn’t have insurance. Sarah wanted to help him, but she didn’t have anesthesia. He didn’t care about that. Xander and Philip got into an argument while they were at Titan. After their argument, Xander told Philip he planned to go after DiMera Enterprises. He wasn’t above bribing their board members. Philip didn’t want to work that way anymore. Xander thought Victor would approve of the plan, but Philip didn’t want to deal with Kristen. Stephanie was almost killed the last time Philip went after the DiMeras. Since Xander needed Philip to agree to it, he shut down the idea.

Brady blamed Kristen for Rachel sending Ava the threatening texts. Kristen thought it was a cry for help. They ended up arguing over Rachel. Brady told her that Rachel was a mess because of both of them. Kristen finally agreed with him. Brady felt like Rachel needed them to get along. He was afraid that Rachel could become a nightmare when she got older. Brady suggested that Rachel get therapy, but Kristen didn’t want that for her. He thought things would get worse for her if they didn’t do something about it now. She finally agreed to let her go to therapy. Tate told Sophia about Holly getting upset about the baby. He also told her that her mother went to his father insisting they get married. Brady and Tate weren’t down for the idea but agreed to take care of Sophia and the baby. Tate wondered if Sophia thought about adoption. Sophia felt like her mother would want to raise the baby herself if she could. Her mother wouldn’t allow her to give the baby to strangers. Sophia understood that her mother didn’t want her to give the baby up for adoption. Tate understood too, but he didn’t think they were ready to be parents. She eventually agreed that adoption might be the best choice. Sophia planned to talk about it with her parents. She asked him to go with her to her doctors’ appointment. Tate agreed to go, but he wished he could do more for her. She was grateful for what he did for her because she couldn’t get through that without him. After Sophia left, Tate called Holly. Holly ignored the call. She asked Doug III why he didn’t call the police about the mugging. Xander arrived at the Kiriakis mansion and told Sarah about what happened with Philip. Philip called Kate and told her about his day with Xander. He assured her that no one would find out that Victor’s letter was a forgery. He didn’t realize that Stephanie was listening at the door. She was shocked by what she heard.

Days of Our Lives Update

Update written by Joseph

Stephanie goes to the Kiriakis Mansion and greets Sarah. They wish each other a happy new year. Sarah guesses Stephanie is working. Stephanie says she wanted to drop off some head shots for Bonnie. Sarah notes that Bonnie is out for dinner with Justin but she will make sure she gets them. They talk about Sarah putting baby Victoria down to sleep. Stephanie asks where Xander is. Sarah hoped he would take the night off from work, but he decided to go get a jump start on the new year. Stephanie notes that’s exactly what Philip said.

Philip goes to the Titan office and tells Xander that he’s been in accounting all day, going over the books and getting up to speed. Philip then tells Xander to get the hell out of his chair.

Brady goes to the DiMera Mansion and tells Kristen that he doesn’t have time for these petty, immature games she’s playing as Ava said she got another text. Kristen asks if Ava sent him. Brady says she didn’t and calls this childish and stupid. Brady says he’s really busy with Tate so he doesn’t have time for this. Brady threatens to slap a harassment claim on her if she doesn’t stop bugging Ava. Kristen says that isn’t necessary. Brady argues that he found out the texts came from this house. Kristen tells him that it wasn’t her and reveals that it was Rachel sending the text messages which shocks Brady. Brady asks if she’s sure. Kristen confirms that Ava just confronted her about the same thing and Rachel came running in, yelling that Ava was bullying her which is when she realized it was her. Kristen informs Brady that Rachel admitted it to her. Brady yells at Kristen that this is her fault.

Tate walks through the town square and comes across Sophia sitting at a table. Sophia says she’s just drowning her sorrows in hot chocolate. Sophia tells Tate that she went to see Holly. Tate says he just saw her too. Sophia apologizes for saying anything as she figured she already knew. Tate says it’s on him as she was just too afraid to tell her. Sophia asks what Holly said. Tate says she just got really upset and took off and he has no idea where she is now.

Holly goes to the park where she sees the two men run off after beating up Doug III. Holly then rushes over to check on him, asking what happened and who those guys were. Doug III claims not to know and that they tried to mug him. Holly wants to call the police but Doug III says no. Holly questions why not. Doug III says he doesn’t want to get mixed up with the cops. Holly wants to take him to the hospital but he insists that he’s fine. He tells Holly to just leave and forget what she saw but Holly says she can’t do that.

Sophia understands if Tate wants to go find Holly. Tate talks about how he should’ve told Holly but he was trying to work up the nerve. Tate admits he doesn’t think Holly would’ve reacted much differently if she heard it from him, because now that he and Sophia are having a baby, Holly thinks nothing will ever be the same for them and he guesses she’s right.

Kristen questions Brady blaming her for Rachel sending texts to a mob princess. Brady argues that Rachel learned these tactics from Kristen. Brady says he watched her drive Chloe out of town and he won’t let it happen again. Kristen argues that this isn’t about Rachel but about Brady and a woman he’s been seeing for two seconds. Kristen tells Brady that it’s his fault.

Sarah asks Stephanie if she and Philip are officially seeing each other. Stephanie says she wouldn’t say it’s official but they have been spending a lot of time together lately. Sarah hopes that Philip plays nice with Xander because there’s a lot of water and blood under that bridge. Stephanie hopes Philip cares more about his father’s company than one upping Xander. Sarah guesses they will just see.

Xander tells Philip that it’s his chair, desk, and office while Philip’s office is down the hall. Philip argues that this is the CEO’s office. Xander says he’s the CEO while Philip corrects that he’s co-CEO. Philip feels it’s important that employees view him as a man in charge. Philip argues that Xander had his turn and now it’s his. Xander asks if he’s really going to be this petty. Xander asks if he proposes they have a duel. Philip asks why not.

Stephanie hopes she’s not being overly optimistic about Philip and Xander finding a way to work together, but she wants to believe it’s going to work because she’s partially responsible for the situation since she helped Philip try to get the company from Xander. Sarah understands that’s what she was hired to do. Sarah thinks it all boiled down to the letter from Victor that showed his true intentions. Sarah adds that Xander was upset but does respect Victor’s wishes. Sarah says when Philip showed up with the letter, it was the worst possible timing since Xander was devastated by her accident and was willing to do anything to get the cure for her, so he felt Philip was standing in the way. Sarah says maybe that was a good thing, otherwise Kristen would be running Titan while Xander and Philip would have no company to be fighting over. Sarah talks about everything that Xander has gone through, being deprived of his relationship with his father and the inheritance that Theresa cheated him out of. Sarah says part of her thinks maybe this is how things were supposed to work out and maybe it’s good for Xander to have Philip as co-CEO.

Xander and Philip set up at two desks next to one another. Xander guesses this is better than a duel while Philip complains about Xander. Xander then informs Philip that he’s spent the whole morning working on a hostile takeover of DiMera Enterprises to start the year with a bang.

Brady calls Kristen deluded. Kristen argues that he’s in denial and tells him about focusing on being a parent instead of going from one failed relationship to the next. Kristen suggests maybe then his kids wouldn’t be so screwed up. Kristen calls Tate a walking disaster and asks if maybe his legal troubles are a cry for attention. Kristen argues that all Rachel wants is the attention Brady gives to the women in his life, but that isn’t going to happen.

Sophia asks Tate if he thinks he and Holly are over. Tate says he doesn’t know but he has no idea if they can come back from this. Tate assures he’s not giving up. Tate tells Sophia about her mom showing up at their house after Brady left her a message. Sophia asks if she wants to know what was said. Tate informs her that Amy wanted to plan their wedding. Sophia laments that she just won’t take no for an answer. Tate says that Brady told her there’s no way they are getting married, but that they will be there for her and the baby in every other way possible. Tate promises Sophia that she’s not going through this alone.

Holly worries that Doug III is really hurt but he insists it’s no big deal and he’s okay. Holly tries to help him up but he can’t get up. Holly says he’s really hurt and questions why he doesn’t want medical attention. He says they’ll just get the police involved and he can’t have that. Holly decides that she knows someone who can help that he can trust as she helps Doug III up.

Brady tells Kristen that his kids know they are the most important people to him while Kristen argues that Rachel doesn’t know that. Brady blames Kristen scheming for full custody and putting restrictions on his visitation. Kristen argues that she wanted him to see more of Rachel. Brady says she did until he told her that he didn’t want to get back together with her. Brady shouts that she blackmailed him and asks what they are doing. Brady thought they buried the hatchet unless that was just for Christmas. Brady says that going at each other’s throats like this is just going to hurt Rachel more. Brady accepts that’s his fault for Rachel going through this mess right now. Kristen tells Brady that he’s right that they are both at fault and that Rachel does deserve better than them being at each others’ throat. Brady suggests they just focus on being Rachel’s parents because that’s what she needs. Brady asks how they prove to Rachel that they can get along and that she is the most important thing in the world. Brady declares they need to do that to help their little girl.

Philip questions Xander wanting to take over DiMera Enterprises even though Kristen did him a major solid by giving him the serum to help Sarah. Xander argues that she didn’t do it out of the goodness of her heart and used the serum to try to blackmail him out of Titan. Philip asks if he wants DiMera to pay her back. Xander says it’s because they are a competitor and acquiring them would give them a major market advantage. Xander feels they can pay off some board members, undermine Kristen’s authority, and take it over. Philip warns Xander that he would be making a huge mistake.

Stephanie questions Sarah thinking that Philip and Xander working together could be a good thing when she’s had major problems with Philip. Sarah admits that Philip has done some shady things but Xander has too, so maybe the brothers working together can keep their worst instincts in check. Stephanie jokes that or they could team up and destroy the world, but they are just hoping for no blood shed. Holly then arrives with Doug III and tells Sarah that they need her help.

Sophia tells Tate that he doesn’t have to say anything and she doesn’t like this any more than he does. Sophia adds that he might think her mom is a loon but she really does love her. Sophia states that her mom has very strong beliefs that are very different than her beliefs. Sophia and Tate agree that they were responsible. Sophia says that it’s too late for a do over and now her pro-life mom won’t let her have an abortion and get on with her life. Tate then tells Sophia that there is another option and asks if she’s thought about putting the baby up for adoption.

Xander says he’s not shocked that Philip objects to his plan. Philip is shocked that Xander came up with the plan. Xander questions when Philip started caring about breaking the law when he was laundering mob money through Titan, last time he was in charge. Philip says he has a second chance now and that’s not how he wants to operate anymore. Xander asks if he wants to prove to Victor’s memory that he’s a moral, ethical person now. Xander points out that Victor must have bribed thousands of people throughout his life and he’d be salivating at the opportunity to take over Stefano DiMera’s company, especially when the DiMeras are vulnerable right now. Philip worries that Kristen is the biggest viper of them all, so he’s not eager to mess with her. Philip reminds Xander that the last time the DiMera-Kiriakis feud heated up, he was right in the middle of it and Stephanie almost got killed. Philip shouts that he will never let that happen again.

Sarah asks what happened to Doug III and sends Stephanie to grab her medical bag. Sarah says it looks like somebody really worked him over. Holly confirms it was some guys in the park. Sarah asks if they called the police. Holly claims they did. Sarah questions not going to the ER. Holly says that Doug III doesn’t have insurance. Sarah can’t guarantee he doesn’t have broken ribs but thinks they are just bruised, though she won’t know without an x-ray. Sarah asks how he’s feeling. Holly says he was pretty out of it but didn’t lose consciousness. Sarah says his cut will need stitches. Doug III tells her to do what she has to do.

Sophia questions Tate thinking she hasn’t thought of adoption and says that would be a great solution but her parents would hate the idea. Sophia says that her mom is determined to dictate every choice she makes and knowing what a control freak she is, she’d rather raise the baby herself before giving it up to strangers and she totally gets that. Tate guesses it is weird thinking about their baby just being out there raised by strangers. Tate complains that they are not ready to be parents, so maybe it is best for the baby and both of them. Sophia says and for he and Holly. Tate says that’s not what he’s saying. Sophia knows he’s right since having a child is a huge, life changing responsibility, so maybe putting the baby up for adoption would be the best thing for everyone.

Kristen agrees with Brady that they need to focus on helping Rachel. Kristen informs him that she sent Rachel to her room, took her phone, and asked Harold to turn off the wi-fi after those texts. Brady says that Rachel is clever and will find a way to turn it back on. Brady adds that Rachel is also defiant and has no problem defying them. Brady worries that when she gets older, that defiance will be very problematic. Kristen gets it and asks what he would have her do. Brady thinks Rachel needs professional help which Kristen refuses. Brady asks what is the problem with therapy and says all of them could use family therapy. Kristen argues that they aren’t a family. Kristen thinks Brady just wants Marlena to ride to the rescue and turn Rachel against her. Brady says Marlena would never take her granddaughter on as a patient. Brady tells Kristen to put her paranoia aside and says he’s just trying to help their daughter because her life has been a mess since day one, mainly because they’ve made a mess of things. Brady feels they need to jump on this now and fix it or else Rachel will end up just like them when she could be a better person than both of them and he hopes she will be.

Doug worries about Julie when he goes home all bloody. Sarah thinks he should take something for the pain and then lay down before he goes anywhere. He doesn’t want to impose but Holly assures that they have plenty of room. Doug III thanks Sarah for everything. Sarah says that’s what family is for as Holly helps him out of the room. Sarah tells Stephanie that was an unexpected interruption. Stephanie is glad that she was able to help him and she hopes they figure out who mugged him. Stephanie decides she should get going as she has dinner with Philip. Sarah tells her to enjoy. Stephanie jokes that she can’t wait to hear how his day at the office went.

Xander asks Philip if this is really about Stephanie. Philip says it is, partly, as they are seeing each other again and he refuses to let her be caught in the crossfire of the DiMeras and Kiriakis feud like last time. Xander jokes that he just broke up with her last time. Philip says what Xander is suggesting is not how he wants to operate. Philip feels there’s plenty they can accomplish without going to war with DiMera. Xander disagrees but Philip reminds him that he can’t make a decision without him, so his plan isn’t happening. Xander remarks that he knew this would be a disaster as he exits the office.

Tate brings Sophia hot chocolate and offers his jacket if she’s cold but she says she’s fine. Tate offers to go with her to talk to her parents about adoption but Sophia doesn’t think her mom is ready to hear that and there’s no rush since she’s going to be pregnant for a long time. Tate tells her to just let him know. Sophia says there is something else he could do. Sophia informs him that her mom made her a doctor’s appointment to make sure everything is okay with the baby and she’s kind of terrified while her mom will just make her more nervous, so she asks if Tate will go with her. Tate assures that he will. Sophia thanks him. Tate wishes there was more that he could do. Sophia says he’s doing a lot just by being there for her as there’s no way she could get through this without him.

Holly helps Doug III to a guest bedroom. Doug III remarks that he can’t believe she lives in a mansion. Holly helps him remove his shirt.

Kristen tells Brady that she will go along with it if Brady finds Rachel a therapist. Brady says it’s good that they are on the same page and thinks they should be on everything regarding Rachel from here on out. They agree to try their damndest. Brady says he would love to talk to Rachel. Kristen asks if she can go with him which Brady accepts, so they head upstairs together.

Sophia thanks Tate again while Tate says she doesn’t have to thank him for anything. Sophia says she should get home, so Tate says he will see her tomorrow at school. Sophia walks away and then Tate sits back down to call Holly.

Holly sits with Doug III and ignores Tate’s call.

Tate puts his phone down, looking upset.

Holly tells Doug III that she will put his shirt in the wash, but first she needs him to tell her the truth. She says she backed him up with Sarah but she wants the truth as to why he didn’t want her to call the police.

Xander goes home to Sarah at the Kiriakis Mansion. Sarah tells him that she tried to get Victoria to stay up for him but she went to sleep. Sarah asks how his day was. Xander responds that it started off great but it turned in to a nightmare, thanks to Philip.

Philip talks on the phone to Kate and says that he and Xander are off to a rocky start because he squashed one of his big plans, but he controls 50% of the company so Xander will not prevail. Philip assures Kate that there is no way that Xander will find out the letter Victor supposedly wrote him was forgery, so he tells her not to worry about it right as Stephanie arrives to the office.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

Hmm. Now, good night, my little one.

[baby cooing]

Hi, Stephanie.

Hi. Happy new year.

Happy new year to you too.

[sighs]

Don’t tell me you’re working.

Oh, actually, I am, yeah. I wanted to drop off some head shots for Bonnie to autograph. Is she around?

No. No, she is not. She’s out with Justin for dinner, but I can make sure that she gets them.

Thank you.

You’re welcome.

[baby cooing]

Oh, is that little Victoria?

Yes. Yes, she’s just talking away in her sleep per the usual.

Aww.

I was actually hoping that she wouldn’t go down so early because her daddy doesn’t like it when he doesn’t get to say good night.

Oh, I get that.

Mm-hmm.

And where is Xander?

Well, I was hoping that he would be taking the night off from work, but he has decided to go get a jump start on the new year.

Funny, that is exactly what Philip said.

[stirring music]

Philip, what a surprise.

Why? I’ve been in the building all day.

Really? I haven’t seen you till just now.

Yeah. I was down in Accounting, going through the books, getting up to speed. Now, do me a favor and get the hell out of my chair.

[tense music]

Kristen, I don’t have time for this.

Time for what?

This–this–this petty, immature game that you’re playing.

What are you talking about?

Ava said that she got another text.

Oh, so Ava sent you.

No, she didn’t send me. What are you doing? You’re a grown woman. You’re sending these anonymous messages. It’s childish and stupid.

Yes, it is. Absolutely right, Brady.

And I got a lot going on with my son right now, and I don’t need this. So here’s the deal. If you keep bugging Ava, I’m gonna have to slap a harassment suit on you, okay? Is that what you want?

It’s not necessary.

Well, you told me that you didn’t send the text, but I found out they’re coming from this house.

Okay, it wasn’t me.

Stop it with the crap, will you? Of course it was you.

Oh, my God. Just listen to me.

What?

Just listen to me. It was Rachel. Rachel was the one sending the text messages.

What?

Yes, she was the one sending those.

[stammers]

My God. Are you–are you sure?

Yes, I am sure, Brady. Ava was just here confronting me about the same thing, and Rachel came running in, yelling that she was bullying me. And that is when I realized it was her. I mean, I knew I was innocent. And, uh, the text messages were allegedly being sent from this house.

Did Rachel admit it to you?

Yes, she admitted it.

Great. That’s great. That’s terrific. Way to go, Kristen.

What?

Way to go. What do you mean, “what?”

What? Yes, what?

This is your fault. This is your fault.

Huh.

Um, listen. I, uh, went to see Holly.

[soft music]

Yeah. I, uh, I just saw her too.

Oh. Look, I’m really sorry. I wouldn’t have said anything. I just–I figured she already–

Hey, It’s all right. It’s on me. I was just– I was too afraid to tell her.

What did she say?

Not much. She just got really upset and took off. And I don’t have any idea where she is now.

Oh, my God. Doug, what happened to you? Who were those guys that just ran away?

I don’t know. Tried to mug me.

[suspenseful music]

I’m calling the police.

No.

[soft orchestration]

announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

I’m confused. Doug, you were just mugged. Why don’t you want me to call the police?

I don’t wanna get mixed up with the cops, okay?

Okay, but at least let me take you to the hospital.

No. No. No hospital. I’m okay. Just leave and forget this ever happened, okay?

No, I can’t do that.

Well, if you wanna go look for Holly, just–

No, I– I think she probably needs a little time to just cool off.

I shouldn’t have assumed that you already told her that I wasn’t having the abortion.

No, I should have. I should have told her as soon as it happened. I just, uh– I guess I was trying to work up the nerve, you know? But to be honest, I don’t think that she would have reacted much differently if she’d heard the news from me. Because, well, now that, you know, you and I are having a baby…

[sentimental music] She thinks that nothing’s ever gonna be the same with us. And yeah, I guess she’s right.

It’s my fault Rachel is sending threatening texts to a mob princess?

You know she’s not a mob princess anymore. And yes, it is your fault.

Oh, for God’s sakes, Brady.

No. ow, think about it. Where did Rachel learn this stuff, all these tactics, that threats and intimidation are the way to get what you want? That’s at your knee, Kristen. I watched her drive Chloe out of town. I’m not gonna watch her do it again.

Okay. This isn’t even about Rachel, Brady! This is about a woman that you’ve been, what, dating for all of two seconds?

No, stop. Just stop with that.

No, I won’t stop. I won’t stop. You are so blind to the truth. If it’s anyone’s fault, it is your fault.

[tense music]

So are you and Philip officially…

Seeing each other? Um, I wouldn’t say it’s official, but we have been spending a lot of time together lately.

Nice. Well, I really hope that he does play nice with Xander because there’s– there’s a lot of water and blood under that bridge.

For sure. For sure. I just hope that he cares more about his father’s company than he does about one-upping Xander.

Me too. I guess we’ll–we’ll just see.

Your chair?

[scoffs] This is my desk, my chair, my office. Your office is down the hall, has a window, a lovely view. I left a succulent for you to say welcome.

How nice. You can move right in. But this is the CEO’s office.

Yeah. I’m CEO.

No. You’re co-CEO. I used to visit my father here when I was–

When you were knee-high to a grasshopper?

It’s important the employees view me as the man in charge. Aman, loosely speaking.

You already had your turn. Now it’s mine.

Philip, are you– are you really gonna be this petty?

If you think I’m being petty, you can just go.

Oh, for God’s sake, what do you propose? That we draw straws? Have a duel?

[laughs] Why not?

[suspenseful music]

I hope I’m not being overly optimistic about Philip and Xander finding a way to work together. Maybe I’m– maybe I wanna believe it’s going to work because I’m– well, I’m partially responsible for the situation.

What do you mean?

Well, I–I helped Philip try to wrest the company away from Xander.

Yeah, but that–that’s what you were hired to do. And I’m sure that you ran a very effective PR campaign. But, Stephanie, I think as– as far as the judge was concerned, it really just all boiled down to that letter from Victor that showed what his true intentions were.

Yeah, I know that was the deciding factor.

Yeah. And as upset as Xander was, he does respect Victor’s wishes.

Well, he certainly didn’t seem to at first.

[chuckles] No. No, but you have to understand…

[sighs] When Philip showed up with that letter, he– it was the worst possible time. It really was. Xander was devastated by my accident, and he was willing to do anything to get that cure for me. And he just felt like Philip was standing in the way.

Well, he was.

Yeah. Yeah, but I don’t know, I– maybe that was a good thing because, otherwise, right now, Kristen DiMera would be running Titan, and Xander and Philip would have no company to be fighting over.

Huh. I hadn’t thought of it that way.

Xander’s been through so much. I mean, he was– he was deprived the relationship that he deserved to have with his father. And–and Theresa tried to cheat him out of his inheritance. So, you know, you can understand why he was so skeptical when Philip showed up with that letter.

Mm. Oh, I totally get that.

Yeah, I don’t know. Part of me thinks that, like, maybe this is how things were supposed to work out. Just between us…

[mischievous music] I don’t know, maybe it’s good for Xander to have Philip as a co-CEO.

Hmm.

Well, this is, at least, a little bit less trouble than a duel, wouldn’t you agree?

Sure, until you’re muttering to yourself over a game of Wordly over there while I’m trying to close a multinational deal over here.

It’s much more likely to be the opposite, actually. And speaking of deals, I should probably share with you that I’ve spent the whole day working on a hostile takeover to start the year off with a bang.

Oh, yeah? And what company do you want us to take over?

DiMera Enterprises.

[suspenseful music]

Wow. Just when I think you couldn’t be more deluded, you are–

For the love of God, Brady, you are in such heavy denial. I mean, maybe if you just focused on being a parent instead of going from one five-minute failed relationship to the next, your kids wouldn’t be so screwed up. I mean, Tate– Tate is a walking disaster.

Hey, hey! Don’t–don’t you bring Tate into this.

You know what? You know what? No, no. Has it ever occurred to you that–that Tate’s legal troubles is just a cry for attention? I mean, come on, Brady. That’s all Rachel wants. She wants your attention. I mean, she wants to feel as important to you as the parade of rotating shiny objects on your arm. But that’s not gonna happen now, is it? Is it?

[sighs]

You don’t think Holly meant the two of you were over?

I don’t know. But I have no idea if we can come back from this. But I know I’m sure as hell not giving up.

Yeah. I didn’t think you would.

Oh, by the way, my dad left a voicemail for your mom, telling her that he was hoping to talk things through, and she didn’t call back, but she showed up at our house earlier.

Oh, she did?

Yes.

Do I wanna know what she said?

Uh, she wanted to plan our wedding.

[laughs] Oh, my God. Wow, she just will not take no for an answer. Well, what did your dad tell her?

Just the same thing that you and I told her, that there’s no way in hell that we’re getting married. You know, but that we will be there for you and the baby in every other way possible– financially or whatever. We also promised her– and I just wanna tell you that I promise you that you’re not going through this alone.

[soft music]

Whether you like it or not?

Doug, you’re, like, really hurt.

It’s no big deal. I’m okay.

Okay. At least, let me help you up.

[groans] Damn.

Yeah, you’re just fine. You need medical attention. Why don’t you wanna go to the hospital?

Because they’ll just call the police, and I can’t– I can’t–

Oh, okay. Okay, I get it. No, police. I’m not just gonna leave you here, though. Here. Lean on me.

Where are we going?

I know someone who can help you, someone I promise you can trust.

Okay.

That is bull.

Hmm.

My kids know. They know that they are the most important people in my life.

Oh, really? Well, Rachel doesn’t.

Well, maybe if you hadn’t schemed for full custody and then put those draconian restrictions on my visitation rights–

Okay, you know what, Brady? I–I wanted you to see more of Rachel. I told you that.

Yes. Yes, you did, right up until I told you I didn’t wanna be together with you anymore. And then you changed your tune on that, didn’t you?

Yeah, well, if you hadn’t misled me–

Misled? You blackmailed me!

Oh.

You–what are we– what are we doing? What are we doing? Didn’t we agree to bury the hatchet? Or was that just for Christmas time? I don’t–

[soft tense music] Going at each other like this, going at each other’s throats, we’re just gonna hurt her more. She’s the one that’s gonna get hurt. That’s the reason why she’s a hot mess right now. And you know what, Kristen? That’s my fault. And that’s your fault.

[sighs] Hey. You’re right.

I mean, will you please say that to me again, so I’m not hearing things?

I said–I said, Brady, that you– you’re right. I mean, both–both of us are at fault, yes. And Rachel does deserve better than you and I being at each other’s throat, as you said.

I think she does.

[soft music] Maybe we need to focus on just being her parent. I think that’s what she desperately needs right now. So how do we do it? How do we prove to our little girl that her mom and dad can get along? How do we prove to her that, yes, her happiness takes precedence over everything, and she is the most important thing in the world? How in the hell do we do that? We need to do that to help our little girl.

Wait. So you wanna take over DiMera Enterprises?

That’s what I said.

DiMera Enterprises, which is run by Kristen DiMera, who did you a major solid by giving you the serum that cured Sarah.

Oh, please. Kristen did not do me that major solid out of the kindness of her heart. She used that serum to try and blackmail me into handing over Titan. If Brady hadn’t intervened, Sarah would still be in a wheelchair.

So you want DiMera because you wanna pay Kristen back?

I want DiMera because it’s a major competitor of ours across a number of sectors, and acquiring them would give us an insurmountable market advantage. And with all this DiMera infighting right now, a few strategic payoffs to the right board members– that’d really undermine Kristen’s authority, which is already on shaky ground. And from there, it’s just a hop, skip, and a jump to taking over the company.

And you would be making a huge mistake.

You think Philip and Xander working together is a good thing?

Well, I–I think it could be.

But why? I mean, you obviously have a lot of problems with Philip.

Yeah, I do. He’s–he’s done some really shady stuff in the past.

[both chuckle]

Yeah.

But so has Xander. So I don’t know. Maybe the brothers working together could just help keep each other’s worst instincts in check.

Or they could team up and destroy the world.

[laughs] Not quite as optimistic as me, huh?

I–I’m just hoping for no bloodshed.

Me too.

Aunt Sarah, we need your help.

[suspenseful music]

It’s okay. You don’t have to say anything. I don’t like this, either. As a matter of fact, I hate it. It’s, like, straight out of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

Yeah, it kind of is, isn’t it?

And, look, I know you probably think my mom is a loon, but she really does love me. Like, over the top loves me. It’s just that she has very strong beliefs which are very different from mine.

Oh, I get that, believe me.

She keeps saying I should have thought about the consequences of my actions before I got into bed with you. But we tried to be responsible.

No, we were responsible.

Yeah, well, that’s all moot now, right? Too late for a do-over. Now my pro-life mom won’t let me have an abortion and get on with my life.

[soft music]

Um… Sophia, you know, there is another option.

What other option?

Have you thought about putting the baby up for adoption?

You object to my plan. I’m so shocked.

Yeah, well, I’m shocked you came up with this plan. I mean, my God, Xander, you’re talking about bribery–

Whoa, whoa, wait. Since when did you start caring about breaking the law? Weren’t you the one who was laundering mob money through Titan last time you were CEO?

Yeah, under duress from Ava.

You know, the fact that you think that that’s a good excuse…

You’re right. It’s not. It’s just a reason and a pathetic one at that. The worst part was, I let my father down. Ourfather.

Our father. Point is, I have a second chance now, and that’s not the way I wanna operate anymore.

And why is that? You want to prove to Victor Kiriakis, or his memory, at least, that, what, you’re a moral, ethical person now? Victor Kiriakis, who must have bribed hundreds, if not thousands, of people throughout his life. Victor Kiriakis would be salivating at this opportunity to take over Stefano’s company, especially now, when DiMera is uniquely vulnerable with EJ and Chad and Stefan all out.

Oh, oh–aren’t you leaving another DiMera offspring by the name of Kristen, who happens to be the biggest viper of them all?

Don’t tell me you’re afraid of that lunatic.

Well, I sure as hell am not eager to mess with her. I mean, she may be a lunatic, but she’s also savvy, spiteful, and treacherous. Not to mention the last time the DiMera-Kiriakis feud heated up, I was smack in the middle of it, things got dangerous for a lot of people I care about, including Stephanie, who almost got killed. Well, I’m never gonna let that happen again. You understand? Never again!

[groaning]

God, what happened?

This is my Aunt Sarah. She’s a doctor.

I know Sarah. We met at the Hortons’ at Christmas.

She’ll help you.

I’m gonna do my best. Stephanie, would you grab my medical bag? It’s in the den.

Yes, yes.

Goodness. It looks like somebody really worked you over.

Yeah, some dudes mugged him in the park.

I’m so sorry that that happened to you. Did you call the police?

Yeah. Of course we did.

Okay. Oh, my goodness. Oh, my goodness. Oh, my goodness. Why didn’t you go to the ER?

Doug doesn’t have insurance, and you know hospitals, they charge, like, $100 for an aspirin, so.

Yeah. I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry, honey. Oh. Okay, I cannot guarantee that these ribs aren’t broken, but I do think that they are just bruised. I won’t know without an X-ray. Okay. How do you feel? Are you breathing okay? Are you dizzy, nauseous?

I’m–I’m okay.

Did you lose consciousness at all?

He was pretty out of it when I found him, but no, I don’t think he did.

Okay. Oh, goodness. That cut is gonna need stitches, but I’m so sorry, I don’t have any anesthetic.

That’s okay. That’s all right. Just do what you gotta do.

[apprehensive music]

You think I haven’t thought of that? That I wouldn’t prefer to give this baby up to people who actually wanna raise a child? I mean, yeah, adoption would be a great solution, except for the fact that my parents would hate the idea.

Okay, but if they’re pro-life and that’s their issue, and they want you to go to college and med school and everything, doesn’t that–

Look. Look, my mom rules the roost in our house, okay? And she is determined to dictate every choice that I make. And I figure she wouldn’t have been talking about us getting married if she was gonna be cool with us giving the baby away.

We’re not getting married.

So knowing what a control freak my mother is, she’d probably wanna raise the baby herself before she’d give it up to strangers. And I totally get that.

Yeah, you’re right. I guess I do too. It is weird, you know, thinking about our baby just being out there, raised by strangers. But we’re not ready to be parents. We’re not. So–so maybe this is what’s best for the baby and for both of us.

And for you and Holly.

No, that’s not what I’m saying.

I know. I know.

[sighs] You’re right. I mean, having a child, it’s obviously a huge, life-changing responsibility, so… Maybe putting the baby up for adoption would be the best thing for everyone.

I agree. I agree that we need to focus on helping Rachel. And as for the texts, I sent her to her room. I took away her phone. I asked Harold to turn off the Wi-Fi and her cable.

Yeah, but the problem is, our daughter’s clever.

Yeah.

She’s gonna find a way to turn it back on.

I suppose you’re right.

She’s not only clever, Kristen. She’s defiant. She has no problem disobeying you or me or anyone else. She’s a minor right now, so her transgressions are small. When she gets older, that defiance is gonna be very problematic.

[pensive music]

Okay. I get it, Brady. What would you have me do?

For–for starters, I think our little girl needs some professional help.

[laughs] A shrink? No. No. No way in hell. Mm-mm.

So you think that what Rachel did was perfectly fine, and she’s a perfectly well-adjusted little girl right now.

No, I don’t think that, Brady.

Well, then why–what’s the problem with therapy then? Is it the stigma attached to it? Because I think all of us could use a little family therapy, to be honest with you.

Except we’re not a family, Brady. I–I–I–you know what? I do know what you’re doing right now. You wanna get Granny MarMar to ride to the rescue and turn Rachel against me.

No, no, no. That is actually not what I had in mind at all. By the way, Marlena would never take her granddaughter on as a patient anyway.

Okay. So what? So you–you could ask her to recommend a friend who’s going to be totally biased against me.

No, I’m not gonna–

That’s what you should do.

Will you–please, will you take the paranoia and just set it aside for a second and just give me the benefit of the doubt here? I’m just trying to help our daughter. Her life has been a mess since day one, and it’s mainly because we’ve made a mess of things, Kristen.

Whoa. Hold on. I mean, it’s not our fault that she was switched at birth with Sarah’s baby.

Okay. All right, fine. Everything after that, all right? But we definitely need to jump on this now. We need to fix this. Otherwise, our little girl…

[pensive music] She’s gonna end up just like you and me. She can be a better person than both of us. I damn well hope she will be.

Me too.

So you’re Doug Williams’ grandson?

Yeah. And Julie’s gonna be thrilled when I walk in all bloody. Oh, God, I hope I didn’t get blood on your rug.

Oh, no. You’re–you’re fine. How are you feeling?

Better. How’s the hand?

I’ll live.

Well, I’m glad that you’re both okay. And, Doug, I think that you should probably take something for the pain and then go lie down and let it kick in before you go anywhere.

Look, I don’t wanna impose.

No, you won’t be imposing. We have plenty of room upstairs. You can lie down, rest. I’ll wash up your shirt, too, so you don’t freak Julie out when you get home.

Are you sure?

Of course.

Yeah.

Mm-hmm.

Okay. Well, thanks for everything.

Yes, that’s what family is for.

[grunts]

Okay. All right. Well, that was an unexpected interruption.

Oh. Well, I’m just so glad you were able to help him.

Yeah.

I just hope they figure out who mugged the poor guy.

Me too. Me too.

[sighs] Okay.

Well, I should probably get going. I have dinner with Philip.

Oh, okay. Enjoy.

Yeah. Well, can’t wait to hear how his day at the office went.

[sighs] Is this really about Stephanie Johnson?

[soft tense music]

Yeah, partly. She and I are seeing each other again.

Ah.

And I refuse to let her be caught in the crossfire of DiMeras and Kiriakises the way she was last time.

Then why don’t you just break up with her? I mean, that’s presumably where things are headed, knowing you.

Oh, will you shut up? I told you, this isn’t just about Stephanie. What you’re suggesting is not the way I wanna operate. I want Titan to be legit. And there’s plenty we can accomplish without going to war with the DiMeras.

Yeah, well, I disagree.

Fine. Disagree. And rant and rave all you want ’cause since you only control 50% of the company, you can’t make a move without me. So your little plan– it ain’t happening.

I knew this was gonna be a disaster.

[sighs]

Here you go.

Thanks.

Are you cold? Do you want my jacket?

No, no, no, no, no, I’m fine.

Are you sure?

Yeah.

Okay.

[soft music] Hey, um… maybe I could go with you to talk to your parents about adoption if you think that might help.

No, probably not. I don’t think my mom is ready to hear that right now. And it’s not like there’s a rush. I’m gonna be pregnant for a long time.

Well, uh, you just– you let me know.

Well, there is something else you could do.

Okay. Yeah?

Uh, well, my mom made a doctor’s appointment for me to make sure everything’s okay with the baby. And I’m kind of terrified, and she’s gonna make me even more of a nervous wreck. So is there any way that– Would you go with me?

Yes. Yeah, of course.

Thank you.

No, you don’t have to thank me for anything. I just–I wish there was more that I could do for you.

You’re doing a lot already just by being here for me. There’s no way I could get through this without you.

This place–wow. I can’t believe you live in a mansion.

[chuckles] Yeah. Sometimes neither can I. Okay, let’s get this shirt off of you before you lay down.

Okay. Ow.

Do you want some help?

Yeah.

[suggestive music]

Okay. Okay, Brady. I will go along with this. You find Rachel a therapist, and I will make sure she gets to her appointments.

[sighs] Okay, good. This is good. I feel like we’re on the same page about this. And for the record, I think we should try our damnedest to be on the same page about everything regarding our daughter from here on out.

Of course. And I will try my damnedest.

As will I.

[soft music] I would love to– I’d love to talk to her if I could.

Of course. Um… May I go with you? Can we go together?

Sure.

Well, thank you for the hot chocolate and for the talk.

Hey, you don’t have to thank me for anything. Okay?

I’ll try to remember that. Now, I should go home before my mom sends out the National Guard to track me down.

Okay, well, I’ll see you tomorrow at school?

Yeah.

[sighs]

[line trills]

[phone rings]

Okay, I’m gonna go throw this in the wash. But first, I need you to tell me the truth. I mean, I backed you up with my Aunt Sarah, so, Doug, I need you to tell me the truth, why you didn’t want me to call the police.

[soft tense music]

There you are.

Hey. Hello, darling.

[gentle music] Where’s the little one?

She’s asleep. I’m so sorry. I tried to get her to stay up for you. How was your day?

[case slams]

[sighs]

It was that good, huh?

Well, it started off great. But then it turned into a nightmare, thanks to my brother.

Mom, would you relax? All is well. Yeah, Xander and I are off to a kind of rocky start, but no worse than I expected. Oh, because I squashed one of his big plans, and he was furious. But since I control 50% of the company, he obviously will not prevail.

[suspenseful music] You don’t need to remind me, Mom. No. There is no way he’s going to find out the letter Dad supposedly wrote me was a forgery. So don’t worry about it, okay?
