I knew deception could count on you to reach a broader customer base, and proof is in the sales. Products are flying off the shelves. Give yourself a pat on the back. How about a raise? Actually, I have another perk in mind for you — a really wonderful one. Dr. Westbourne, can I have a moment of your time? Something I can do for you, dr. Randolph? You haven’t responded to the proposal I sent you and dr. Quartermaine. Did you receive it? For expanding our telemedicine services? Many patients find in-person visits daunting — even prohibitive for a variety of reasons. We can expand our opportunities to consult with us online rather than come into the hospital. Which would require a major expansion of our it and tech departments.

[ Sighs ] If you read the whole memo, you would have seen the research I did. Other facilities who have expanded in telemedicine have earned back the costs in five years or — or less. But none of the expansion is covered in this year’s budget. If you were chief of staff, you’d realize that any new proposals must be cost-effective. So let’s study the numbers. Come up with a solution. You’re not co-chief of staff yet, terry. And what about you, britt? You stormed out of dr. Quartermaine’s office when she suggested we work together. Have you decided that’s impossible?

[ Monitor beeping ] Josslyn: Dr. Robinson. -Mr. Ashford. -Hey. We are here to check on ms. Henry. I was with her last night when she collapsed at kelly’S. We know — the paramedics told us that you called 911 immediately. You did an amazing job. Thank you for keeping your head and taking quick action. But how is she? Is she gonna be okay?

A stroke? I thought it might be it. My mom has taught me to recognize the symptoms. I am so sorry. But the good news is, it’s the most common type of stroke, which is also the most treatable. And she was brought to the emergency room immediately. And the doctor that was on call was able to diagnose the stroke, so the neurology team was able to start that treatment immediately. Stella’s gonna recover. Um, and — and — and getting her the right treatment in time was — it all started with your quick thinking. Yes, cam told me what happened. Tell them. Well, my mom is always pounding into me and my brothers first-aid tips to help someone when they’re in need. And since I was able to recognize the signs of stroke, I-I dialed 911 and noted the time that she started to lose balance. And cam kept speaking to ms. Henry until the paramedics got there. I mean, he would not let her go to sleep. I always knew that you were a smart kid, but the way you handled this emergency — I mean, that’s — it’s something special. I’m gonna make sure stella knows that — and your mom. Well, thank you. I-I’m just — I’m glad that your aunt’s going to recover. There’s just — t-there’s something that she needs to know when she wakes up. A larger office? No, wait — a car and a driver. Come on, sasha, don’t leave me in suspense. What is this wonderful perk? [ Inhales deeply ] Oh, wow. That is so great. Look, I don’t want to sound like I’m complaining. Valentin and yuri have been really, really helpful with bailey, but, um, this whole motherhood and work thing is — is really hard. Don’t worry — you’ll — you’ll find out soon enough.

[ Chuckles ] Getting closer all the time. It’s really so kind of you to consider me. Really, sasha. Um, okay, so, when do I get to interview some potential candidates? Look, it has to be somebody who, you know, is in tune with my personality. Somebody who is collaborative, but who will defer to me as their boss, you know? Someone who’s loyal and — and steady, but who doesn’t complain. A-about that — I-it’s, um — I look great, right?

[ Laughs ]

[ Chuckles ] The makeup artists at deception said I have good bones — like edie falco. And, look — I got tons of free products, just like you promised. Excuse me. We’re in a meeting. Brook lynn quartermaine, right? It depends. Who are you? Brook lynn, this is gladys corbin. Your new assistant. But I do prefer to be considered more of an equal.

[ Chuckles ] Well, I should be the one, uh, thanking you. Carly said you stepped in to smooth things over with joey novak. That guy’s a punk. Mnh, I didn’t think it would be good for anyone to let the situation escalate by the pool at carly’s hotel. Yeah, well, look, if he takes you up on that free service at your garage, I’ll pay the bills. Thank you, but, um, with all good intentions, that sounds like the first step down a slippery slope back to the business, and I made a commitment to, uh, stay far away. Really? What changed your mind? I want to be in sasha’s life — and our baby’S. I mean, you were the one who told me to consider, you know, what it was that was really important to me — um, what I’d be risking. Sasha and our baby won, hands down. But I-I want you to know I appreciate the advice. Actually, I was on my way to ask dr. Quartermaine for a meeting… to turn down her offer. The job is all yours. Monica pitched us as a team. If you’re out, so am I. Well, I guess she’ll have to find someone else with my expertise… and your vision. You’re throwing away this incredible job just like that? I handled this incredible job just fine without you or anyone else. And before you throw cyrus renault back in my face, let me remind you — I was working with jason to try and keep renault in check — which is why I nearly got killed by his thugs. I’m sorry I belittled your life on the run. You threw my relationship with jason in my face in front of his mother.

[ Sighs ] Saying you had jason to satisfy your needs was not my finest moment. I’m sorry. And you think an apology is good enough to make me want to share my job with you? Jax: Stop for a second. Look at me. I don’t want to fight with you again. We don’t have to fight if you tell me the truth. Look, I know that I was upset when you explained to me why you were marrying jason. But then, I realized you re– you weren’t telling me everything. What makes you say that? Because when I voiced my concerns, you told me that marrying jason was not only the best for you, but also for your kids, and one of those kids happens to be our daughter. So it got me thinking, you know what? Maybe this isn’t a simple story of friendship between you and jason suddenly turning to love right after sonny died.

We’re done talking. I’m going to see monica and tell her I’m not sharing the chief of staff position with you. Britt, please, give me five minutes. Okay, two minutes. Monica asked me to be diplomatic with you to see if I could work with you as co-chief of staff. Oh, so, now you’re trying to handle me? Britt, I’m trying to be reasonable. I’m terrible at manipulating people. Is this you being sincere? It’s me being honest. Working together is in our best interest — and more importantly, it’s in the hospital’s best interest. Well, I mean, you seem, uh — you seem at peace with your decision, so… yeah, well, after seeing what you and — and carly’s family went through this past year, you know, with sonny’s death and the damage renault caused. And renault almost killed me and my mother. And if I were to die, m-m-my baby wouldn’t have a father. I-I-I can’t let that happen. Yeah, but — but you knew sasha was pregnant when you stepped in with joey novak. You weren’t thinking about life-or-death situations then. I stepped up because I wanted to help carly. And then, sasha straighten me out. She wasn’t happy with me working for cyrus to help out you and sonny, and she wasn’t gonna sign on for more of that. And you’re lucky you and carly are on the same page when it comes to business. Yeah. Yeah, we are. How does a person get a mimosa around here? I thought it would be nice for you and gladys to get to know one another over brunch rather than in the office.

[ Sighs ] Oh [Laughs] I’ve never been to a business brunch before. Can I have those scrambled eggs with caviar? This is on deception, right? Did you bring a résumé? A résumé? What — what for? Sasha already hired me. Okay, then, what about your background? Uh [Laughs] I’m part irish, part lithuanian, I think. Um, from bridgeport, connecticut, but I moved here to be closer to my son. I didn’t think you were allowed to ask that kind of question. Yeah, I-I meant, what’s your business background? Do you have any experience that qualifies you to be an assistant to a marketing executive? I am keeping my kids safe. How? By — by marrying sonny’s right-hand man? I mean, that brings the kids closer to sonny’s world — which has now become your world. Okay, josslyn hasn’t been touched by anything jason and I are doing, so I don’t know why you’re giving me a hard time again. Because I’m trying to make you see what is perfectly clear to me. This isn’t gonna work, carly. You’re living on borrowed time. Now, I tried to warn you right from the start that it was a-a big mistake to get more involved in the family business, but you didn’t listen. Because it doesn’t change anything. So, can we just get along for josslyn’s sake? Cam, what does my auntie need to know? Well, ms. Henry — she had some papers with her inside an envelope. She asked me where the nearest mail drop was, and, um, that’s when she stood up and stumbled and sort of spilled her coffee. The coffee soaked the envelope and everything inside. And when I was walking her out with the paramedics, one of the waitresses, she [Sighs] — She cleaned up anything that was used or wet. I-I-I’m really sorry. Cam, ms. Henry had a stroke right in front of you, okay? You were focused on getting her help, and isn’t that what’s most important? Look, I will ask my auntie about the contents of that envelope. Whatever’s in there, I’m sure can be replaced. I-I-is there any possibility that I can explain to her what happened? She’s asleep right now, but I am sure when she wakes up, she’s gonna want to thank you. Okay, we’ll come back later. Okay. We just wanted to make sure that she was okay. Thanks. That’s a good kid. [ Sighs ] Now, let me go check on stella for you right now, okay?

[ Elevator bell dings, doors open ] Yeah, sure — uh, but before you do, I need something from you. What? The truth. The doctors are doing the hard work. All you need to do is rest. Give the medicine time to dissolve the clot in your brain. I hope…

[ Breathes deeply ] I hope you are feeling so important, because all kinds of people are worried about you. Mm-hmm. My mom is on top of that list. I guess the two of you were having some issues about the divorce — by which I mean you think it shouldn’t be happening at all. Mom told me that she got pretty angry with you, and she is really sorry. She is really sorry if she said anything, if she did anything to jeopardize your health.

[ Monitor beeping ] You said it — you said secrets have a way of exploding, and this one sure did.

[ Sighs ] I’m just sorry that trina overheard you and stella talking about it. I just wasn’t as forgiving to aunt stella as I should have been. I left her at kelly’s last night, and she was so stressed out. Portia, could I have caused this? Am I responsible for my auntie’s stroke?

Ere can be a correlationbetween stress and stroke, but you’re gonna have to share some of that blame with me. I mean, I came on pretty strong when I spoke my mind to your aunt. It was just a horrible night. Yeah, especially for trina. Ohh. She’s gonna need some time to process this. She’s still so shaken and angry about everything. Understandably so.

[ Sighs ] Was your aunt’s 2017 stroke precipitated by a, uh, stressful event?

[ Chuckles ] I would say so. Um, it started when jordan and i started seeing each other. Ah. I did not realize that. I saw in her file that she was prescribed some anti-anxiety medication after her first stroke for a little while. Yeah, and, uh, it might be time to renew that prescription… mm. …Since, um, aunt stella is never gonna stop doing what she believes in. Aunt stella’s vitals are improving. I think she’s regaining consciousness.Okay, that’s good. Let me go check on her right now, and if she’s doing okay, then you can go in and see her, all right? Yeah, look — look, portia, first, I — I just want to say, thank you so much. You were instrumental in the care that my auntie got last night. I mean, calling in the neurology team and making sure that she was treated as soon as possible — she needs to know about that. Thank you. You’re welcome.

[ Chuckles ] Okay. So, you and dr. Robinson seem to be getting closer. Yeah. But we’re taking it slow.

Say what you want about carly, but her bartender makes a damn good mimosa. -[ Laughs ] -[ Chuckles ] Deception must be doing real well if it can afford metro court prices. Okay, let’s focus, gladys. Do you have any marketing experience at all? As a matter of fact, I do. I used to sell cleaning products with colby-kleen, and I recruited others to sell them, too. I was one of their top people. I didn’t know that. Mm. Yeah, that’s because it was a pyramid scheme that hustled housewives out of their savings. The ceo is in prison. I was an innocent victim, too.

[ Chuckling ] Why are you treating me like I did something wrong? You hired me. Aren’t you brook lynn’s boss? I am. Then take it up with sasha. I have nothing else to say to you. Mm. What are you doing to me? You were at the meeting with the five families, right? Working for cyrus? Yeah, when you were shot during your escape from G.H., Uh, carly — she stepped in. Another stroke? But I’ve been taking care of myself. Strokes have a nasty way of occurring, no matter how well you take care of yourself, auntie. Aunt stella, I am so sorry that I left you at kelly’s last night. I should have been there with you. And I apologize for coming down on you so hard about — about what we discussed. Tj: Add my mom to the apology tour. And we all could have done better by you. Uh, I-I know everybody’s trying to blame themselves… but in truth, there’s only one person to blame.

[ Laughs ] Peace out, guys! I didn’t mean to make any trouble. Yeah, well, it doesn’t sound like that to me. Cam, cam, cam. I just want josslyn to tell her mom and jason that I’ll see them in the stands. Are you sure you want me to pass on that message? Tell jason that you’ll be looking for him at my next game? Valentin and I didn’t foist our baby’s grandmother on someone who didn’t want her. Okay? You don’t see my ma just popping around on everyone and getting in people’s faces. Actually, I am pondering whether or not to share my chief of staff title. What’s to ponder? Half the workload. It sounds pretty good to me. Really? Yeah. Sharing the power? Constantly compromising? Jax: You and jason worked well together hiding from cyrus renault’s men. Well, he saved my life — I saved his. We didn’t have much choice. Yeah, but you had feelings for him. Whether I did or didn’t is beside the point. Jason is marrying carly. Mm-hmm. Do you know why? Do you? You don’t believe they’re in love, do you? I don’t think you believe they are, either.

[ Both chuckle ]So, uh, what’s it about, then? Well, carly went out of her way to explain why they’re getting married — how she and jason had feelings for each other after sonny died, but they felt it was too soon, so they decided to back off. But after jason got sent to pentonville and then got shot during the escape, they realized life’s short. Mm. So they decided to stop fighting the feelings and give in to them instead. You don’t believe her.

[ Sighs ] It was all just a little too perfect, a little too convincing. It was — it was lopsided. It was off-balance. It was like carly had a lot to say. Jason practically said nothing. See, that’s how they operate. Carly comes up with the explanation, and jason just goes along with whatever she says.

[ Monitor beeping ] Laying in here with a stroke. Talk about payback. Stop it, auntie. You didn’t cause the stroke, and thinking that way — that is not good for your recovery. You know what’s good for my recovery? Not sticking my nose in where it doesn’t belong.

[ Sighs ] Wait. So, you remember what happened. Some of it. Not all. Cameron webber — he saved your life. By the way, he mentioned that you had an envelope that you wanted mailed. Anyway, when you collapsed and the paramedics came, that envelope got thrown away. Auntie… do you remember what was in it? I know! It brightens up your whole face! Woman: [ Chuckles ] I don’t remember sonny ever saying he liked gladys. In fact, I kind of remember him speaking about her in the exact opposite manner. Sonny wasn’t very fond of gladys. But mike was, and sonny appreciated that. Gladys: It takes away your pores… besides, it appears gladys has that woman wrapped around her finger.

[ Gasps ] You — you think I have pores the size of nickels?

[ Gasps ] W– how dare you?! Ugh.

[ Chuckles ] Well, I think my work is done. Well — I am gonna leave before I memorialize this talk with the worst sunburn of my life. Uh, you’re an aussie. You were born with a sunburn. That’s true. [ Sighs ] I am doing this for mike, and you owe me big time. So, uh [Sighs] That didn’t go too well. Not true. I was making real progress for a while. She loved that lipstick. That was a really, really nice shade on her. But it’s never a nice, uh, sales tactic to mention a woman’s large pores.

[ Sighs ] I-I-I learned my lesson, brook lynn — honest. Hey, well, to be honest, I’m looking forward to see what you could teach me. I mean, you’re old enough to be a grandma, but you look young enough to be my big sister. It must be my bones. I think I get them from my lithuanian side.

[ Both chuckle ] Call me crazy, but does my mother look happy? Her first five minutes on the job didn’t go so great. But brook lynn’s got it covered. Hmm. Well, tell brook lynn I owe her. Come on, let’s go talk to monica together. Then, we have work to do. He kept going on about how he was gonna be at my volleyball game, sitting right behind you and jason. I knew he was trying to intimidate me. So I turned the tables, and I told him that I’d mention it to jason, and that jason would be looking for him. That backed him off a little. Okay, I understand that you were surprised by this man, and I get wanting to stand up to him, but I do not want you involved. Well, I don’t want to be involved, either. wiley? Can I say hi? There’s no such thing as half divorced, dr. Robinson. Meaning? Meaning don’t jump in headfirst. Portia, you don’t want to be the other woman in curtis’s marriage the way you made him the other man in yours. Curtis had nothing to do with my marriage ending.

[ Scoffs ] Oh, no? You don’t think taking up with my nephew while your husband was off undercover played a part?

[ Chuckles ] Somehow I doubt taggert would agree with you. You make it sound like you only signed those papers because you thought it’s what I wanted. Isn’t it? I thought we had an agreement. I thought we had a — a mutual understanding. So, you’re saying you didn’t want our marriage to end? Curtis, that’s exactly what I’m saying. I think finalizing our divorce would be the biggest mistake of our lives. Hey. Hi. Well, you’re here early. Am I? Yeah, my break doesn’t start for another 20 minutes. Oh, okay. [ Cellphone thumps lightly ] Better? Yeah. I really would have liked to talk to the little guy, but I guess, you know, you’ll introduce me to your grandson eventually.

[ Door opens ]

[ Sighing ] Yes.

[ Chuckles ]

[ Sniffles ] Uh… phyllis. You’re not supposed to be here this soon. What happened with the biopsy? Yeah. Where’s lenny? He’s not coming home. What is it that you want to hear me say? That I was married, went to a bar, and picked up your nephew? That’s true. That it became real and serious? That’s also true. That I stepped out on my husband? Yeah. But none of it — and I repeat, none of it — has anything to do with you. This is my life, my mistakes. And to hell with everybody else? Did I say that? You don’t have to. Who do you think you are? I mean, honestly, who do you think you are? You are speaking to me as if I am a teenager who is late for her curfew. I am a grown woman.

[ Scoffs ] So feel free to judge me, like you’ve been doing. I can’t stop you there. But, please, just go somewhere else and do that. Dr. Robinson. Trina? I’m certainly not happy our marriage failed. But I saw no way for me to move forward, especially after I learned how much that you’d been holding back from me. But what if I’m willing to put in the work to make things different? Different how? We’re nothing without trust, and we don’t have that. That’s not true. I trust you. I want to spend my life, my whole life, with you. Just tell me that there’s enough time to make things right. You better clean up before the party. You want to make a good impression, don’t you? Yeah, no, actually, I’ve been kind of freaking out about that, you know, whether people who have known me my entire life will like me or not.

[ Laughs ] I’m just saying, things are different now. You’re not cam, joss’s childhood friend. You’re cameron, her new boyfriend. Mm. Oh, no, cam. They’re gonna start calling you by your full name. [ Laughs ] What do they say? The days are long and the years fly by? Oh, that’s so true. Are you and jason gonna have kids or what? Oh, my god! Congratulations. I’m so happy for you guys. Oh, thank you. Oh, my gosh. I know you guys have been friends for a really long time. It’s nice to see you finally fell in love.

[ Sighs ] Hey, what’s wrong? I don’t know what I’m doing anymore. It’s like I’ve — I’ve dug this huge hole, and I keep searching for the way out, but I can’t find it. We’ve dug a huge hole. We’re in this together, remember? I should have told him. From the second I knew I wanted to be with you, I should have told chase the truth. You — you — you tried. When — when he collapsed and we thought he was dead, when we found out he couldn’t walk anymore. I mean, when was the right time to tell him that? You know, “chase, hey, I’m sorry. I don’t — I don’t love you anymore.” Okay, yes, but there’s never a right time. Yes, but those were really bad times. And, look, willow, just because you want to spare chase, that does not make you evil, it makes you human. So don’t — don’t beat yourself up, and don’t make the mistake of thinking that this is permanent, okay? ‘Cause w-we’re here now, today, but we won’t be in this place forever. Promise? I actually do, yeah. Part of me just wants to go to the house right now and just, you know, get it all out there, tell chase that I — that I’m here for him, that I always will be, but that we should not have gotten married, that my life is with you now.

[ Sighs ] But every time I try to wrap my head around doing that, I can’T. Then you can’T. And that’s okay. I mean, there’s no playbook on how to — how to handle this, and we’re doing the best that we can. Look, chase will get better, and when he does, you will tell them the truth. Until then, yeah, things are gonna be very uncomfortable. But, hey, we can get through this. We’ve gotten this far.

[ Breathes sharply ] We should go back.

[ Sighs ] Okay. Hey, have you seen my shirt? Come on, buddy. You don’t want to go up there. You don’t want to, trust me. I need to know. No, there’s a difference between knowing and seeing. Well, I-if michael and will– get out of my way. Chase, you physically can’t get up those stairs. Watch me. All right, fine. Maybe you can. Maybe out of the sheer force of your own will, you manage to get to the top of the stairs. But at what cost? Wreck your body, you’ll damage your muscles, you’ll set yourself back weeks, if not months. You worked really hard to get here, man. Look at you literally standing on your own two feet. Don’t let them take that away from you, too.

I’m sorry. I should have said lenny isn’t coming home tonight. Well, that would have made a big difference, phyllis. Yeah, a big difference. Okay, s-so what happened? He had a reaction to the anesthesia. Nothing dangerous. All right. But they wanted him to stay overnight for observation. I just came to grab some clothes and a toothbrush. Wanted to give an update before I head back. You shouldn’t be alone. I’m gonna — I’m gonna drive you. That’s not necessary. No, we’re both gonna go, because we want to. Fine. But only ’cause it’ll make you feel better. Thank you. I’m gonna call eddie, and I’m gonna see if he can cover for the bar. Why don’t you sit down, okay? Come on. Ugh. Feels like… lenny’s illness is already spiraling out of control. Yeah. Yeah, it does. And you’re spiraling with it, right? It’s got me really second guessing some of my life decisions. Trina, honey. Baby! Dr. Robinson, I’m so sorry, but mr. Lu in 1043 — he’s been asking for you. I’ll go after her, try to stop her. Don’t you dare! Don’t you go one step near my daughter.

[ Sighs lightly ] Is trina going to the party, too? Why? Just curious. No, she’s not, and, no, I don’t know what she’s doing later. Maybe we should all go out sometime. Like, on a double date? That is a horrible idea. Ready to go? Mm. Yes. Very ready. -Bye, spence. -Rude! The papers are signed, but they’re not filed yet. We can call our lawyers, put the divorce on hold. We can go back to counseling. We can do whatever it takes. Jordan — curtis, we have come too far. We’ve gone through too much to just give up now. I think that we’re worth it. Don’t you? You don’T.

[ Footsteps approaching ] So, are you gonna be okay? I have to be. There is a newly minted three-year-old anxiously awaiting his birthday party. Well, let’s go. Okay. I said crispy bacon. Is it really that difficult, webber?

[ Sighs ]

[ Sobbing ] Trina! What’s wrong? Where are the birthday boy’s parents? I think it’s high time for presents, am I right? Well, maybe they’re still dealing with harmony. Yeah, I doubt it. I didn’t get the impression that was gonna be a long visit. And what about austin? What about him? Well, is the guy still lurking around? I don’t know, brook lynn. You want me to go count to china settings? I don’t want you anywhere near my family’s china.

[ Chuckles ] Well, maybe austin couldn’t handle the drama and he took off. Ha! Guy calls himself a real quartermaine. He’s gonna need thicker skin if he’s gonna roll with this crew. Okay, buddy, here’s the plan. We’re gonna wait here for a few minutes until michael and willow get to the big house, and then we’ll go. Look, I’m not going anywhere until you help me up those stairs. Why? Because I have to see with my own eyes. I gotta know.

Phyllis, you always seem so steady. You’re everybody’s rock. You have such a solid, beautiful life here with lenny. Well, you can be steady and have regrets at the same time. I miss my family. Your family? Yeah. You know, you never talk about your family. I just assumed that you weren’t close. We used to be. Not anymore. What happened? You know, life.

[ Chuckles ] One of those old conflicts so layered over with time and silence that I can hardly remember how it started anymore. I just accepted that this was the way things are. But now… faced with the horrible possibility of losing lenny… …those bad feelings and resentments just seem pointless. Yeah. So why don’t you say that? You go to them, and you say exactly that. You try to make things right…

[ Chuckles ] …Before it’s too late. Mm. Oh, yeah? So, are you ready to take your own advice? I don’t know if I can do this. Hey. Yes, you can. Together, remember? Together.

[ Sighs ] Okay. Okay. Brook lynn: Oh, there they are. Are you okay? I mean, seeing your mom — I know that was pretty tough.

[ Door closes ] Yeah, not the best surprise, I’ll give you that. Did harmony leave? Yeah, yeah, she’s long gone. I just needed a minute, so I went down to the gatehouse. Michael was nice enough to come check on me. -Uh, how’s wiley? -Perfect. He’s, uh, helping monica set the table. Okay, I’m gonna go check on them. Okay. Where’s chase? I don’t know. Haven’t seen him in a while. Valentin, have you? I haven’t seen him. He got into it with my mother. Yikes. Maybe after all the excitement, he needed to rest. Well, at least they were safe. There’s no right thing to say to a man who’s discovering that his wife has cheated on him. Willow doesn’t cheat. The evidence would say otherwise. No, I mean, she doesn’t fall in bed with people lightly. That’s not who she is. If willow is sleeping with michael… …it means she’s in love with him. I can’t even believe you. Trina didn’t know? That her mother cheated on her father? Of course she didn’t know that. Trina. Hi, honey. It’s — it’s your mom. Um, call me back when you get a chance, okay? Just give me a call. Or maybe you’re referring to the fact that the man I’m currently seeing is the same man that I had an affair with back then, ’cause she didn’t know that, either. But she definitely knows it now. You don’t know that. I don’t know that? Really? Well, m-maybe she didn’t hear everything. She heard something. Did you see the way that she looked at me? I’m so sorry. It was never my intention to involve her. I don’t give a damn about your intentions! My daughter is in pain, and I can’t go after her because I have to deal with my patients right now. [ Cellphone ringing ]

[ Ringing stops ] You want to talk about it? It’s just stuff with my mom. Come on. You can tell me. I just found something out, something bad. About your mother? She’s been lying to me, or not really lying, I guess, but keeping things from me, things I should have known. I’ve certainly been there. Did she explain why she didn’t tell you? She probably would have, but I was so pissed, I just ran off. I can’t deal with her right now. As long as you deal with her at some point. It doesn’t have to be today, but you need to give your mom the chance to explain. I was so mad at my father for so long. We didn’t speak for a whole year, and things… they got kind of out of control. So take it for me, okay? It’s best to get everything out in the open, for all of you. I will always love you. There’s no doubt about that. But the life we had, even though I may miss it… it’s no longer the life I want anymore. ‘Cause of portia? Because of me.

Well, I’m reconnecting with my grandson. I’m trying to get along with

[Breathes sharply] His family. I am in no way perfect at all, but I think I’m trying to take my own advice.

[ Chuckles ] I’m not talking about your grandson. Oh. I ran into valentin cassadine at the hospital in new york city. Wait, what? You ran into valentin at the hosp– is he all right? He’s fine. He wasn’t there as a patient. Oh, good.

[ Chuckles lightly ] But that reaction makes me think the two of you have unfinished business. I told valentin to respect your privacy. Thank you. And I’m sure he will, even though he doesn’t want to. What do you mean? Well, it was clear as day that that ex-husband of yours still cares for you. All right, we’re all set. Um… eddie’s gonna cover. [ Chuckles ] Oh, you know what? There’s something I should tell him about the new taps. All right. I’ll be right back. Okay. Is it just me, or were you a little… thrown off when phyllis mentioned your ex? No! No. It’s just because I was surprised that she ran into him in a hospital in new york, of all places. Is that it, or are you, uh… you still a little connected with your ex, valentin? You know what, chase? Why don’t we just take a moment? And maybe we should just chat about this for a second. Have a seat. I don’t know willow. I don’t know michael. I-I don’t know you. But I know people. And people cheat. Sometimes it’s the people that you didn’t think ever would cheat. But it almost never has anything to do with love. Nah. That may be most people, but not willow. And as furious as I am, I… I can’t see michael doing it, either. Well, apparently he did it. No, I mean, if he — if he didn’t feel something for her, something real… he wouldn’T. He wouldn’t trash our friendship over a fling. Chase… I think it’s time for you to investigate the possibility that you don’t know your best friend or your wife as well as you think you do. So great-grandma let you open a present early, huh? Oh, I think more than one present. [ Laughs ] You are the luckiest birthday boy ever. Oh, he sure is. It has wheels. Whoa! [ Laughs ] Did you find that a little strange before with nina? Strange how? Like, how I had to convince her to turn her camera on to talk to wiley. I mean, I just figured she would jump at the chance to facetime with him. Yeah, she did seem a little distracted. I hope things are okay with her friend. I’m a little worried about her. Worried enough to go to bedford lake? Nixon falls. Whatever. Worried enough to go and see if she’s okay? Hey, do you think spencer was even more annoying today, or was that just me? It was not just you. God, and he brought up trina. I mean, out of all the guys she could date… do you really think that she’s into spencer? I mean, that’s what I’m seeing. And I guess it makes sense. I mean, she doesn’t know spencer like we do. To her, he’s probably some cool, cultured, new guy.

[ Scoffs ] But spencer’s been spoiled all his life. And, yeah, on some level, I understand. His dad probably wanted to make up for the fact that his mom passed away. But that was the justification for him to get away with everything? Yeah, spencer’s definitely lived in a no-limits zone. And he still does. And then we have trina, who’s, like, the most awesome person to walk the earth.

[ Clears throat ] Aside from you, of course. Of course. I just see a whole lot of potential for her to get hurt. Well, then, you should tell her that, that spencer’s not all he seems on the surface. No way. It’s none of my business who trina dates. I mean, unless he was abusive or a drug addict or something. But trina’s gotta figure this out for herself. And, hey, you know, you’re her friend, as well. I mean, if you disagree, you know, you could always say something to her, spread the knowledge. Yeah, that’s more of a girl thing. I think it’s more of a “no” thing. I just wish trina knew what she was getting herself into. It had always been just the two of us. You and your dad? And to discover that he treated me like everybody else, not thinking of the pain he was putting me through… I’m sure he thought about it. I guess. Maybe it just didn’t matter enough. Anyway, that made me furious. I get it. I mean, I was furious, too. Well, with my dad. We went through something similar… mm-hmm. …Kind of. But you’re on good terms now? It took a while, but, yeah, we’re solid. See, what I didn’t realize is that the more I gave in to my anger, the more time it cost me with my father. And now there is a rift between us that I’m not sure we’re ever gonna overcome. I love my mom, and I can’t imagine my life without her. But it’s just — I thought we were honest with each other, you know? Like we understood each other. And now… it’s all broken. And it feels awful. Okay, look… the fact that your mom disappointed you like this — it’s bad. I’m not gonna pretend that it’s not. But it doesn’t negate the kind of person that she’s always been to you. You just have to adjust your perspective a little. Start seeing her not only as a parent, but as a flawed human being like everybody else.

[ Voice breaking ] But I don’t want to see her like that. I know. I felt the same way about my father.

[ Breathes deeply ] He went from being my idol to being this person who was just capable of making huge mistakes.

[ Chuckles ] But he’s still my dad. And your mom’s still your mom. And she deserves for you to hear her out. Curtis: This isn’t about portia. This is about me and where I am in my life. You’re moving on. Do I regret everything we gave up? Of course I do. But… I just — I-I-I can’T. I can’t anymore. I can’T. I respect that. I had a feeling that it was too little too late. I just, um… I was determined to be honest with you.

[ Sighs ] I always admired your courage. Just not my timing. Not so much. I have to go. Bye, curtis. Goodbye.

So, you think I should go back and face my mom? Doesn’t have to be today, but, yeah, I think you’ll feel better if you do. Really? Because the thought of it just makes me feel sick. Well, I didn’t say it was gonna be easy. I-I wasn’t strong enough to do it when my dad apologized to me.

[ Breathes deeply ] But, uh, you’re smarter than I am.

[ Chuckles ] You’ll be able to salvage your relationship with your mom. I’ll think about it. Good.

[ Clears throat ]

[ Sighs ] And for what it’s worth, you seem pretty smart to me. Thanks, spencer. Any time. Um, I’ll never, uh, never be indifferent to valentin, mike. It’s — it’s just you, of all people, should know how I have moved on. Yeah, I got that impression. Yeah, good. So you better just trust your instincts. Okay. Okay. Valentin and I are done. What? What? What? You want to ask me something.

[ Laughs ] No, it’s just that, you know, I’m happy that — that you’ve moved on, but I was just wondering, does valentin know that? Or is he gonna show up here like your other ex, jax, and I’m gonna have to take him down?

[ Laughter ] Get that. I hadn’t even considered visiting nina in nixon falls. Okay, maybe I’d considered it, but her friend phyllis made it very clear I would not be welcome there. When has that ever stopped you? Oh, curtis. Oh, thank god you’re still here. Yeah, I got your message. I w– I waited for you. What’s going on?

[ Voice breaking ] I made a huge mistake. Trina, honey, it’s your mom. Um, give me a call or shoot me a text. I-I need to know that you’re okay and that you’re safe. I’m safe. I’m just — I’m exhausted after a long day, and I don’t have it in me to be anything but honest about how I’m feeling. I — of course. I get it. I wasn ‘t really sure how to go about this, either — you know, how to talk to you about it. I was just hoping that we could chat before you and curtis spoke. When did he tell you? He didn’T. I saw the two of you together. I don’t want to interrupt your meal. I was just picking up some food before meeting my mom at the hospital. Oh, you’re not interrupting anything. So, um, portia tells me that she mentioned that she told you about us. So I got time, if you want to talk. Oh, like I said, I can’t stay. Are you sure? Because it looks like you got something on your mind. So, do you know if lenny is out of surgery already? No, but phyllis wants me to, you know, tend bar. She doesn’t want me sitting with her at the hospital waiting. Yeah, it’s one less thing for her to worry about. Yeah, and she also knows that I was trying to stop her from micromanaging the staff.

[ Laughing ] Yeah. That’s right. So was there any indication from the hospital of how serious lenny’s condition may be? No, they have to assess the growths on the pancreas before they can figure out what stage that the cancer is in.

If it’s cancer. Yeah. Yeah. But phyllis is hopeful, and thanks to you. But I don’t know if that’s a blessing or a curse. This must be the birthday boy.

[ Sighs ] He’s gotten so big.

[ Door closes ] Hey, uh, brook lynn, would you mind taking wiley to the den, please? Would I mind? I love this guy. Come, let’s go draw a picture for bailey. Let’s go. [ Sighs ] I’m sure you have questions. Just — just one. Why did you come back now?

I’m wrong, but I thoughtwe had buried the hatchet after everything that went down with your dad. We did. Honestly, there’s nothing major going on. I’m happy for you guys. Okay, I’m sensing that you’re anything but happy. Look, this thing between your mom and me, it’s new, and that’s the reason why I wanted us, you and me, to start out on the right foot. Is it, though? New? What do you mean? I just want to make sure you and the commissioner were over by the time you and my mom got together. What would make you think we weren’t? Go easy. Okay. Ow. You know, lenny’s hesitation about the surgery, it was less about the cost and more about giving phyllis false hope. Because it’s the pancreas? Yeah. The outcome of pancreatic cancer is often bleak. “Often” isn’t “always.” Yeah, I said the same thing to lenny. Right. But then he also made me promise that if we run out of options, things that we can do for him, that… I need to do whatever I can to get phyllis to recognize that. You think you can keep that promise? I don’t know. You know, sometimes hope is the only thing that gets you through, you know? It did for me. The hope that someday I would meet my daughter, it kept me going for years and years and years, and I wouldn’t trade that for anything, even though I know the outcome of the search. Because I never would have had my grandson in my life. Usually when you speak about wiley, you’ve got a happy smile on your face. And right now, you’ve got a sad one. It’s his birthday today. They having a party? Yeah. I’m missing it. I knew today would be full of surprises for wiley. I did not expect harmony to be one of them. I normally make it a habit to study up on those in my orbit. Ah. Of course you do. But I must confess to knowing next to nothing about willow’s family history. Why was it so upsetting for her when her mother showed up? Because harmony forced willow to join a cult where she got pregnant with the cult leader’s baby. Call me crazy, but that’s probably the reason. Willow, I’ve tried to explain this to you. Try again. My legal situation is complicated. Yes, I testified against shiloh, but I also pled guilty, which makes my release and my parole and all of those other things — forget your legal situation. Why today, mom? Why would you do this today? Because you’re my daughter. And as horrifically as I messed things up, I want to try and rebuild. You didn’t answer my question. Because today is important. It’s wylie’s birthday. It’s a day for family. And I was hoping that if I reached out today that you might be receptive. And made it look like a suicide. Willow didn’t know anything about it? Not until after she was forced to sleep with the guy. Forced how? She was raped? Pretty much. And he would drug the girls, so they were foggy about what was happening. Girls, plural. So this was a pattern? Oh, yeah. Yeah. How do you know so much about this? Because sonny’s daughter christina was one of the girls. Yeah, christina, she wanted to join the cult and she was ready to offer herself up to shiloh. And that’s when the family had to intervene. And in the fallout, we realized that shiloh had to be taken down, and the person who made that possible… is harmony. Chase: What are you doing here? Well, it’s my grandson’s birthday, so I thought — you thought wrong. First, you cause your daughter unbearable pain… I know I did. …And then the second you get out of pentonville, you’re playing messenger with cyrus renault. I wanted nothing to do with cyrus. He forced me. Michael: You might not be aware of this. I only know because jason was somewhat involved, but cyrus threatened willow. That’s how he got harmony to cooperate. I was protecting my daughter. Well, that would be a first.

Never, ever makeexcuses for anything that I did, but I love my daughter. What I was trying to explain is that I came here today because I thought it would be a good time to reach out and — and hopefully mend fences, or move in that direction, at least. You need to leave. [ Crying quietly ] Jason: Harmony had to confront everything that she had done wrong — killing her husband, almost destroying her daughter’s life — and she figured the only thing she could do for willow is step up and take the stand. And she did. And she took responsibility for everything. And she went to jail in the process. Which she absolutely deserved. I’m not saying she didn’T. I’m not defending her actions. But as much as anyone can make amends for those kinds of mistakes, I think harmony did. And she helped fend off nelle when she resurfaced. She did everything in her power to let michael keep his claim on wiley. Well, obviously, it’s all up to willow, but I think harmony did something really horrible. Some things horrible. That she tried to make up for. For them. Not unlike a lot of people that have taken shelter under this roof. Mm. There’s also the cyrus thing. What, harmony was in league with cyrus renault? Unwillingly. They knew each other in prison, and cyrus threatened willow to get harmony to cooperate. But it’s like you said — it’s really up to willow how to handle this, and she’s well within her rights to not want anything to do with her mom. But you think she sincerely wants to make amends.

[ Sighs ] She wants to make things right. Sometimes that works, and sometimes you just have to accept that you can’t fix it, no matter how bad you want to. Well, I would love to stay for the party, but I can’t, so can you tell michael and willow? I don’t want to interrupt. Yeah, I’ll be happy to. I’m gonna stick around for awhile, but I can walk you out. I’m gonna go check on bailey. Thank you for coming. Yeah. Wish it had been more of a celebration, but oh, well. I’ll see you soon, okay? [ Sighs ] You know, as much as I love that you’re here, you don’t have to stay for me, ’cause I can handle myself. Oh, I definitely know that, mike, more than you realize. But just because you can do something on your own and survive it doesn’t mean that you have to. Can I be honest with you? Mm-hmm. Lenny being sick hit me hard. Yeah, of course it has. When we were in the hospital in new york city, I was — I was like — I felt this…familiar pain, like a — like a memory.

[ Stammers ] What kind of memory? Lenny had gone to do some tests, and then I went out to the hall. And I saw this hat on the ground. I guess a patient left it, and I, uh — I picked it up. And I was hit with a flash, like… not a whole memory, but, like, a feeling that… …I was saying goodbye to somebody or like I was letting go. And it really — it really felt like I was — I was… remembering… …my family.

[ Cellphone beeps ] Dr. Robinson. Do you have a minute? That depends. Are you here to pass judgment on my character again? One of the perks of reaching a certain age is you get to pass judgment all you want and no one bats an eye. That was a joke.

[ Sighs ] Look, it was never my intention to make an enemy out of you. Believe it or not, all I want is to make sure neither you nor curtis gets hurt. And I can’t help but worry it’ll end up that way if the two of you pursue this relationship. Why would you think that?

[ Sighs ] Because I have it on good authority that curtis’s marriage isn’t over just yet. Okay, so, that thing you were talking about back there, about wanting to fix the damage but not being able to. You were talking about britt. Look. It is what it is. It’s a whole set of circumstances that none of us asked for, you know? First, it was sonny, then our territory was vulnerable, then I get arrested. Because peter and cyrus set you up. Then the escape went wrong, and I couldn’t make the meetings to the five families. You did, carly, and you stepped up, but you also made yourself a target. Us getting married is to protect the family. It’s to protect each other. And I’m good with that, okay? I’m choosing that. But it comes at a cost for both of us. I know that. You’re right. It does come at a cost. And I know it’s really tough for britt, because she doesn’t know all the reasons. It doesn’t help me to talk about it, okay? Okay, but — but what? It’s a long, convoluted, and very sad story, but ultimately, willow’s mother did something really terrible that she wants to make amends for. Do you think she can? I don’t know. I’ve never met the woman. This is the first I’ve heard of the story. But I tell you what, it’s very easy for me to empathize, because the only thing worse than realizing how wrong you were to do something really, really terrible is when you do something really, really terrible that hurts your child. Hurting your kids? Valentin, you’re a great dad. Thank you. It wasn’t always that way. Charlotte worships you. Charlotte’s mother lulu and i fought mercilessly in and out of court for years. It was an enormous strain to put on charlotte. Bouncing back and forth, court-ordered visitation, social workers and psychologists. It was just such an enormous strain. She was caught in the middle, and I would never want to do it to her, but I made life so difficult. And… I stole time from her that she could have spent with her mother, getting to know lulu. I don’t know if she’ll get a second chance at that. And I don’t know how one makes amends for that. Well, looks like you’ve really turned your life around, at least as a father. Yeah. There was a time — at least there was a moment for me — where I realized what I was doing, and if I didn’t change, I was gonna lose her. So I decided to be a better dad for charlotte. And now bailey. Charlotte and bailey are the most important things in my world. And you are so important to michael and willow. And they’re not the only ones. I can think of somebody suspiciously missing from this party. Who? Somebody really special who’s gonna really enjoy talking to you, young wiley. Wow. Your family. Anyone in particular? I don’t know, ’cause the only flashes that I had were the ones — the blond woman in my dream, which I believe is you, and this one. We want to video chat so wiley can see your face. Chase: I feel so useless. Willow’s upset, and I can’t even go to her without someone helping me navigate this thing. Stop. We both know that’s not true. I’m sorry? I saw you in the den standing on your own two feet. You even took a step or two. Great job, man. Yeah, well, that’s about all I can take right now. A step or two, and wobbly ones, at that. Does willow know? Not yet. I was hoping to make more progress before I surprised her. Well, it seems to me that after the surprise your wife just got, that she could use a happier surprise, wobbly or not. Go to the gatehouse. Show her some steps. Give willow something to smile about. Willow, I — I know how hard today has been for you. While you’re celebrating the anniversary of wylie’s birth, you’re also marking the anniversary of your baby’s death. That is a lot all at once, so… nobody blames you for needing to take a minute. I was just — I was already all over the place, and I — I opened that door, and my mom was there. It was just like… oh, my god, I’m grieving, thinking about him, how I only got to hold him the one time, and there’s harmony, the reason my baby even existed. I loved him so much. I know. And that doesn’t mean I love wiley any less. Willow, I know. I know. It just means that he was mine.

[ Voice breaking ] He was mine. And now he’s gone. And I don’t know how to feel about any of it. Yeah. Today was a hard day. And to have your mom show up on top of it is — I want to be happy. I want to laugh and sing and help wiley blow out his candles, and I was trying so hard, but all of a sudden, I just — I couldn’T. So I came here to wrap a present that doesn’t exist, telling you I couldn’t find the tape when it’s right here on the table, because it’s not fair to anyone, especially wiley, to see me grieve. It is fair. And even if it wasn’t, it’s how you feel, and that — that makes it real. Yeah. That means it matters.

I really wanted to tell you myself. Portia didn’t betray your trust. I figured it out on my own. And it’s okay. It is? My biggest motivation for signing those divorce papers was the realization that you are moving on with your life. We’re not together anymore, curtis, and that’s mostly my fault. The last thing I want to do is hold you back now that you are ready to move on. Wait a minute. Hold on. Are you saying that you wouldn’t have signed those papers if you thought that I wasn’t ready to move on? I understand that the divorce papers haven’t been processed yet. That’s one of the many reasons why curtis and i decided to take things slow. But if you have any more concerns, please, it’s best to go speak to your nephew about it.

[ Scoffs ] There’s no such thing as half-divorced, dr. Robinson. Meaning? Meaning don’t jump in head-first. Portia, you don’t want to be the other woman in curtis’s marriage the way you made him the other man in yours. Just tell wiley I said happy birthday again, okay? I will. I will. Alright, I’ll see you at home. You know, you’re way more optimistic about this harmony thing than I am. You’re worried? Aren’t you? I mean, you know, I do want to find out where she’s been and what she’s been up to. Look, if it’s her family that’s having her here, that’s great, but if harmony’s in trouble, if she’s susceptible to pressure or blackmail, then it’s better that we find out now. Yeah, I don’t have a lot of time right now, so maybe just get him on the phone and I’ll say happy birthday and that I love him. Look, I think it’s really important that wiley see your face.
