Recap written by Christine

At Newman Locke, Ashland told Victoria that he’d just gotten off the phone with her father. Victoria wanted to know exactly what Victor said. Ashland didn’t want to upset her, but she said it was too late. He said that Victor threatened to expose Ashland’s crimes to Victoria unless Ashland capitulated. Victoria thought Victor’s actions were unacceptable. Ashland wondered how many times Victoria’s family would claim to have uncovered something about his past that made him unworthy of her. Not to mention the implication that she was a weak-willed victim who’d fallen prey to a monster. Victoria agreed with all that, but she wondered why Victor would be trying to squeeze Ashland out, and why Victor would tell this messy and obvious lie. She thought there had to be something more going on.

Victoria guessed Victor’s happiness at the wedding was a farce. Ashland suggested that Victor was happy at the wedding because he thought Ashland would die soon. Or, Victor pretended to be happy at the wedding because he wanted the merger to happen, so he could take control of Locke Communications and force Ashland out. Victoria realized Ashland was theorizing that Victor was the one behind the claims that Ashland faked his cancer. Victoria didn’t think Victor was framing Ashland. She didn’t think her dad would stoop that low or hurt her. Ashland said he was just trying to think of alternatives. Victoria understood why Ashland’s mind would go there, and she could also see why Victor bought into this insanity so quickly, but she didn’t think Victor was the one who made it look like Ashland was faking his illness. Victoria couldn’t picture Victor creating this wide-range conspiracy; that was too dark, even for Victor. Ashland apologized for suggesting it. Victoria wasn’t mad at him. She was angry with Victor for trying to use this lie to push Ashland out of her life. Ashland held Victoria and said he was sorry Victor was putting her through this. She said to feel sorry for Victor, because she was going to fight him with everything she had. “He has no idea what I’m capable of. But I am not gonna let him get away with this,” she said.

At Newman Media, Victor said to himself that Ashland just made a big mistake. “No one threatens me. No one threatens my family and gets away with it.”

Nate and Nick met at Society, at Nick’s request. Nate asked if this was about Faith or Victor’s health. Nick said his father and daughter were doing fine. Nick noted things were going well for everyone health-wise – Sharon was in remission, and Ashland had a miraculous recovery. Nick asked if Nate had ever seen anything like it. Nate admitted that Ashland’s amazing turnaround was rare. Nate wanted a deeper look into the protocol.

Nick thought Nate was a great friend of the family, even though they sometimes didn’t deserve it. Nick didn’t like leaning on that friendship, but he didn’t have a choice. Nick swore Nate to secrecy, then he said it had been suggested that Ashland’s recovery was too good to be true. Nate said sometimes science could seem like a miracle. Nick explained that there were indications that Ashland never had cancer. Nate knew Ashland pretty well, and he found it hard to believe Ashland would do something like this. He asked if the person spreading this rumor even knew Ashland. At that point, Victor arrived and joined the discussion. Nate knew some of the doctors Ashland worked with, by reputation, and they were excellent doctors who witnessed Ashland’s condition firsthand. Victor said Ashland deceived the Newmans, Victoria and Nate. Nate just couldn’t believe this without irrefutable evidence The trio went to Newman Media, where Victor let Nate watch the interview from the Peruvian doctors who said they were paid to pretend to treat Ashland. Nate asked if Victor took the video to the police or if he was sure the people on video were even doctors. He asked what decent doctor would pretend to treat a patient. Nate asked what about the doctor in NY, or the lab that ran the tests and diagnosed Ashland with cancer. Victor tried to get information from them, but he’d been stonewalled. Nate said that was called medical confidentiality. Nate asked if Victor even knew where the money came from to pay off the Peruvian doctors. He said someone could’ve framed Ashland by making it look like the money was from him. He thought Victor and Nick were falling for a scam. Victor said there was more evidence about Ashland on the way – he was a dangerous fraud. Victor wanted Nate to help them protect Victoria.

Nick understood Nate’s position, and he conceded that they didn’t have all the pieces of the puzzle, but he said there was enough evidence to seriously question Ashland’s condition. Nate had seen Ashland experiencing symptoms, and they were friends. Victor knew this was a shock, and he knew that feeling deceived was a hard pill to swallow, but he said to think about Victoria. Nate asked why Ashland would do such a thing. Victor said Ashland wanted Newman Enterprises.

Victor said that if Nate took a look into Ashland’s past, he’d see why it was easy for Ashland to convince Victoria to fall in love with him and convince her to merge the companies. Victor was sure Nate wondered why Ashland suddenly befriended him. “He needed your medical expertise to substantiate his BS about his medical history,” Victor said. Nate resented the implication that he’d been used. Victor asked if Nate read the ChancComm article – Ashland faked his own death and assumed the identity of the real Ashland Locke. Nick said Victoria knew everything in that article was true, but she was under Ashland’s spell, and she bought his excuses. Nick said that they had to gather proof and make sure Ashland didn’t do any more damage to Victoria or the family, and they needed Nate’s help to do that. Nate asked if there was incontrovertible evidence that Ashland lied about his condition. Victor had damning evidence, but it wasn’t enough to make Ashland come clean. Nick said they needed Nate’s help as a medical expert. Victoria burst in. “You have finally crossed the line. There is no coming back from this!,” she yelled.

Chance came downstairs. He’d taken a nap after his first therapy session. Abby knew it was a draining experience and asked if she could help. He assured her he wasn’t shutting her out, but he needed some time to figure this out on his own. He said they could talk about it later. Chance had wanted to take Abby to dinner, and he was sorry it didn’t look like that would happen. She didn’t care about going out. She was just grateful he was going to therapy. She’d never understand what it was like for him in Spain, but she was grateful he was facing his trauma and fighting for himself and Dominic. They kissed, and she began to unbutton his shirt.

Later, they held each other, and Chance said Abby had no idea what this did for him. Abby felt the same way. She said they’d have a lifetime of experiences, and they’d watch their son grow up. He told her they had a lot to be thankful for, then he suddenly said he was hungry, so he’d make them a snack. When he returned, he said it wasn’t easy to talk to Dr. Huffman, but he thought it helped. The doctor saw three tours overseas. Abby thought that was one of the reasons Sharon recommended him. Chance said Dr. Huffman understood a lot of what Chance was going through. Chance said that when people said what happened in Spain wasn’t his fault, he didn’t believe it, though he tried to. He felt that if he tried to move past it, it would be another betrayal of his team. He thought his team deserved to be remembered. Abby silently wept as she listened. He didn’t understand why he felt like he had to hold onto all this guilt. He knew he needed help. He said the pain had been a wall between him and Abby, and he couldn’t let that happen. She knew how hard it was for him to talk about this stuff and open up. She thanked him for sharing it with her. She wanted to be his safe place. He said she was. “I am determined not to fail this mission,” he assured her.

Faith was hanging out at Mariah and Tessa’s place. She asked how they knew they were in love. Mariah didn’t think there was a moment to pinpoint. She thought they both knew before they could admit to to each other. Tessa said that being in love was great, but it could be really scary. Faith shifted gears and asked how many guests they’d have at the wedding. They were keeping it small, so they could spend time with each guest. Faith asked if Mariah and Tessa were worried that their relationship wouldn’t survive the separation when Tessa was on tour. Mariah said it was very hard when Tessa went on the road, but it was also not an excuse to behave badly. Mortified, Faith said she didn’t mean to bring up any bad memories. Tessa said it was okay – being a couple meant that you sometimes worked through things when you made mistakes. Mariah said when she lost her way, Tessa was understanding, compassionate and forgiving. Tessa said Mariah had done the same for her. Mariah said it wasn’t always easy or fun to be in a relationship, but it shouldn’t be agonizingly hard either. Tessa said that you found out what worked and what didn’t, so you could make things last forever. Faith didn’t know what forever looked like, except from her grandparents’ example. Her grandparents had been together a long time, but even they’d had breakups. Her parents once loved each other, but now Sharon was with the awesome Rey, and Nick wasn’t with anyone. It made Faith wonder if soulmates were really a thing, and if they weren’t, why risk ending up with a broken heart.

Mariah wasn’t sure she and Tessa had answers on the risks of falling in love. Tessa added that she and Mariah felt like soulmates because they couldn’t imagine being apart. Tessa conceded that it was risky to put your heart out there, because it could end in ruin. Mariah added that things might work out too, but you wouldn’t know until you took the chance. Mariah asked if this was about Faith and Moses. According to Faith, things were really good with Moses, like life made more sense when he was around. But she knew things could change when they went to college, even though she didn’t want it to. Mariah said when you found the one, it could be reassuring, but sometimes things didn’t work out. Tessa said letting yourself fall in love required bravery and trust.

Noah showed up at Crimson Lights with a beautiful woman his age hanging all over him. He introduced Sharon to Cindy and explained that they were there to get some espresso before heading to the club. Cindy had already heard a lot about Sharon. She showered Sharon, Noah and Crimson Lights with compliments. It became apparent that Cindy didn’t actually know Noah well, because she called him Noel. Sharon asked about Cindy. She had a day job, but social media was her passion. Sharon asked if this was the woman Noah knew from his old days at Walnut Grove. Cindy wished she’d known him back then, but they just met today. Cindy said she and Noah had a meet-cute when they collided on the street while each was texting on their phone. Their phones went flying, and her screen broke, and he fell. They ended up going into a nearby cafe together and having a meal. She called him Noel again. He corrected her, and she acted like she’d been calling him the right name all along. Faith came in and met Cindy. Cindy joked that she was meeting Noah’s whole family on the first date.

Back upstairs, Mariah commented about her little sister pondering love and forever. Tessa said that wasn’t on her mind when she was that age. Mariah knew Tessa didn’t have it easy when she was a teen. Tessa said she’d been dealing with the chaos of her sister and parents. She noted that Mariah didn’t have it easy either. Mariah said she’d been too busy sleeping on friends’ couches and avoiding going home to the woman who raised her. They noted that Faith didn’t have it easy either, given all she’d dealt with. Mariah was glad that Faith got to focus on normal teenage stuff now. Mariah was touched by what Tessa said about their relationship. Mariah knew she put their relationship to the test the last few months. Mariah said Tessa didn’t have to be strong for both of them anymore. Mariah was back on her A game. Mariah admitted she’d been scared about Dom being sick, and it made her wonder what would happen if their future child got sick, if they even got to be parents. Mariah said her talent was worrying about things that hadn’t happened. Tessa said the world was scary, and that was why she was glad to have a partner to help her through it. She was glad to return the favor. They hugged.

Faith and Sharon went to the patio and talked about Cindy. Sharon thought Cindy seemed fun, and she said Noah seemed to be meeting a lot of new people in town. Faith thought it would be nice if Noah found someone. She said maybe seeing Mariah and Tessa happy put the idea of settling down into Noah’s head. Noah walked out and said no one was looking to settle down. Noah thought Sharon and Faith needed something more exciting to talk about. Faith said Noah didn’t have to settle down with Cindy – love could be scary, but you had to be brave. Faith said she was going to go vet Cindy, and she went inside. Noah had a feeling what Sharon was thinking. He conceded that he’d been with the woman from Walnut Grove the other day, and now Cindy tonight, but he was young, and he was supposed to go out and have fun. He asked her not to make this weird or find a reason to worry about him.

Inside Crimson Lights, Faith thought it was interesting that Cindy was a social media influencer. Tessa walked in, and Cindy was starstruck. She knew every lyric and she’d been to almost all Tessa’s concerts in the area. Tessa thought she’d seen Cindy at some of the shows. Cindy was sure Tessa was just humoring her. Tessa said that Cindy had a friendly smile, and she was usually drawn to people like that when she was performing. Cindy squealed in delight. Noah and Sharon returned. Cindy wrapped her arm around Noah again and told him that this was turning into one of the best dates of her life. Cindy said she and Noah were going to the club on market street, and she invited Tessa and her fiancee to come along. Noah was sure they had plans.

Cindy asked Noah if he was having as good a time as she was. Before he could fully say he was, Cindy screamed because “the other half of Teriah” arrived. Cindy couldn’t believe this was happening. Noah said Mariah was his sister. Cindy read online about Mariah getting on stage and professing her love for Tessa. “I died!,” she exclaimed. Cindy asked Noah to get her another espresso. Cindy wanted Mariah to tell her all about her relationship with Tessa.

Tessa told Noah that Cindy seemed cool. He said he forgot what he was missing being by himself so much. He told her that, like Faith said, Tessa and Mariah were couple-goals. He was trying to have some fun, and he’d leave the true love to the experts.

Abby: If you’re here to see Dominic, your timing couldn’t be any better.

Devon: Really? Why, what happened?

Abby: Well, he just got out of the bath and he smells delicious.

Devon: Uh-oh, a bath in the middle of the day — I hate to ask. Why?

Abby: He tried sweet potatoes and peas for the first time.

Devon: Oh, okay.

Abby: Yeah, it was a mess.

Nick: So what’s the game plan? What’s dad’s next move?

Adam: I couldn’t say.

Nick: Is that code for “i know what it is, but I’m gonna keep it quiet”?

Adam: Look, I understand why you would be suspicious after everything that went down in Tuscany, but honestly, I do not know what dad has in store any more than you do.

Nick: Alright, I guess we’re both in the dark.

Adam: I mean, if you want me to speculate, I’d be happy to. Victor said he was gonna try to force Ashland’s hand, so he’ll probably try to get him to confess or get him to turn himself in to the police.

Nick: Why would the police get involved? Is faking an illness a terrible and awful thing to do? Yes, but it’s not against the law.

Adam: He used the fabrication to trick Victoria into marrying him — that is fraud.

Nick: Okay, grounds for annulment, but is it a crime? Victoria can invalidate the marriage, but it’s gonna be very difficult for her to get him out of her life for good. He owns half of Newman/Locke.

Adam: Yeah, he went through a lot of trouble and deception to make the merger happen.

Nick: If he goes, it won’t be quietly.

Sharon: Would you like another croissant?

Rey: No, thank you. I have to stay in decent shape if I plan to hold on to my gorgeous wife.

Sharon: Well, you look damn good from here.

Rey: [ Laughs ]

Sharon: Well, let me know if you want anything else, ’cause i want to take care of my handsome husband.

Rey: Mm. You looking for someone?

Sharon: What? No. Who would I be looking for?

Rey: Mariah and Tessa. You’re just dying for them to come downstairs so you can pounce them with those bridal magazines.

Sharon: What, these?

Rey: Uh-huh.

Sharon: Who put them there?

Rey: Yeah.

Sharon: I think “pounce” is a strong word.

Rey: Mm. Accost? Barrage?

Sharon: Look, it’s getting closer and closer to their wedding date, and a lot of big decisions still need to be made. If they don’t make up their minds soon about the ceremony and the reception and all the little details that go into it, I’m worried this wedding might not happen

********************

Rey: You know, as much as I’m looking forward to Mariah and Tessa’s big day, however crazy it may be, nothing will surpass the day we got married.

Sharon: Aww, our wedding was amazing.

Rey: Mm-hmm.

Sharon: And you’re right, it came together with a little bit of magic.

Rey: Yeah. You know what I remember most? Staring into those big, beautiful blue eyes.

Sharon: You know, everything kind of faded away during the ceremony, but the reception was fun.

Rey: It’s true. There were some great toasts. We’re gonna have to reciprocate for Mariah’s

Adam: What is this issue brewing with Victoria and Ashland? I mean, you asked if you could count on me, and I said that you could, but I cannot help if you’re not gonna let me in on what’s going on. Nick. What are you doing here?

Nick: I have no idea.

Victor: I asked your brother to come here, okay?

Nick: I don’t know if I’d go with “asked.” It was more like commanded. What’s going on?

Victor: My boys, I have some news for you that will change everything.

*************************

Nikki: Oh, well, I would say you already have a strong hand at Newman/Locke. I’ve seen the deference you’re treated with. They clear the halls when they see you coming down.

Ashland: [Chuckles] That’s only because I’m standing next to, you know, her. No, look, what I need is for people —the employees here — to respect me in the same way they respect Victoria at an equal level.

Nate: Ashland, hey. How are you?

Ashland: Uh…fine, fine. Good to see you, nate.

[ Chuckles ]

Nate: Glad I ran into you. I was gonna call you. I’ve been thinking a lot about your proposal that I come and work for newman/locke.

Ashland: Really?

Nate: What you said about the difference I could make in the world, using the company’s resources to have an impact on healthcare on a global scale, really excited me.

Ashland: I thought you might find that appealing.

Nate: Of course, we need to discuss the details of the job before I could officially commit, but I’m leaning towards yes.

Ashland: Fantastic. Good to see you, nate. We’ll talk.

[ Clears throat ]

Nate: Is there a problem?

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: Tell me what? What is it that dad is supposed to say to me?

Nick: What do you mean? Dad — dad talked to you. You already know.

Victoria: Do I?

Nick: Look, I didn’t come here to cause you problems, vick. I just wanted to see how you’re doing.

Victoria: Why are you not telling me the truth? That is the one thing that I can always count on with you. No matter what, even if we’re disagreeing, you never lie to me.

Nick: What am I lying about?

Victoria: You didn’t come here to check on me. You are concerned about me for some reason, so tell me — what is it? Alright, then I’m gonna find out for myself.

Nikki: Oh.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Vick, is this necessary?

Victoria: You have all made it necessary by conspiring behind my back.

Nikki: Conspiring?

Victor: I know you’re angry with me, but there’s no reason for you to throw accusations around.

Victoria: Well, then will someone please tell me what’s going on?

Victor: You already know what’s going on. I asked you and ashland to hold off on signing that binding contract that makes both of you co-ceos. Let’s find out how his health is doing, how he’s recovering.

Victoria: I know what you asked me, but now I need to know what you’re keeping from me.

Phyllis: This is it. I mean, this is the address that was mentioned in all those mysterious texts.

Jack: This is keemo’s house.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] Yeah, somebody obviously wanted you to come here.

Jack: I didn’t think I’d feel this nervous. I…I don’t know, maybe it’s the unknown and not knowing who or what’s gonna meet me on the other side of that door. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Phyllis: Okay.

Jack: Hello! No one’s home.

Phyllis: Well, it seems that way. Um…

Jack: Well, we can’t —

Phyllis: It’s unlocked.

Jack: Well, no, what — we can’t just walk in.

Phyllis: Well, we didn’t come all this way to stand on the front step.

Jack: We didn’t come all this way to trespass either.

Phyllis: Okay, well, obviously the person who is sending you the texts, they wanted you to come here. They wanted you to walk in.

Jack: Well, there’s some world-class rationalization.

Phyllis: It’s not a rationalization. This is your son’s house. I mean, it — it’s basically — it’s not trespassing.

Jack: No, according to the law, this is trespassing.

Phyllis: No, it’s not. There was no next-of-kin mentioned in the obituary. There was no wife, no —

Jack: No, they didn’t even mention his half-sister and, my god, she’s been out of the country for decades.

Phyllis: Okay. So since nobody else was mentioned, you might be the next-of-kin.

Jack: I don’t know, it just — it just doesn’t feel right.

Phyllis: Jack, we didn’t come all this way for nothing. We need answers. You need answers. This is where we start.

Jack: [ Exhales sharply ] Goal!

Jack: O-okay, let’s do this.

Phyllis: Okay. You first.

Jack: Hello! Hello? Is anyone home?

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] Huh. Doesn’t look like anybody’s here and, um, somebody was obviously packing.

Jack: Yeah, the question is who.

Phyllis: A friend?

Jack: God, I would like to think keemo had someone close in his life.

Phyllis: Maybe it’s the person who was sending the texts.

Jack: Doesn’t make sense. We have all these questions, no answers. Someone wanted me to come to los angeles to an empty house to find what? There’s nothing here. And just standing here, I feel like I’m trespassing.

Phyllis: Um…why would you feel that way? Listen, you just said there’s nothing here. It’s not like we’ve uncovered some deep, dark secret.

Jack: I feel like keemo wouldn’t want me here. He made it very clear he wanted no part of me in his life. He wanted nothing to do with a father at all.

Phyllis: Maybe you can think of this as a way to reconnect with him in some way?

Jack: That’s the thing — keemo died not wanting to reconnect with me.

Ashland: I’m sorry, nate, and please don’t read anything into my mood at the moment. Huh?

Nate: Is everything alright?

Ashland: Yes, everything’s absolutely fine, and I’m no less enthusiastic about the possibility of you joining us at newman/locke than I was the day I made the offer. I’m thrilled that you’re actually considering it.

Nate: I’m glad.

Ashland: We need to have a significant conversation about this. The problem is I’m late for an appointment, and that’s why I’m a little distracted right now, so how about if we plan on some dinner sometime this week? How’s that?

Nate: I’d like that, but are you sure you’re okay? You seem frazzled, and don’t take this the wrong way, but you look a little unwell.

Ashland: Don’t worry about me, I’m fine.

Nate: Yeah? You don’t sound fine. What’s going on?

Ashland: Nothing. It’s — I’m fine.

Nate: Okay, look, I don’t mean to pry, but I’m concerned.

Ashland: Seriously, it’s — it’s just…

[ Sighs ] Okay, okay. I — it’s stupid of me to try to fool you. I, um…I’m not feeling 100%.

Nate: What’s going on?

Ashland: The old symptoms — fatigue, occasional shortness of breath — they’ve come back. And it’s made me a little nervous.

Victoria: Nicholas assumed that dad had told me something, but when I asked what that something might be, he wasn’t very forthcoming.

Nick: I was just trying to explain —

Victoria: I think that maybe you were trying to cover something up. So tell me, dad, what is this about? Is this really about ashland becoming co-ceo or is there something else, given that you seem to be spying on us lately?

Victor: I don’t need to spy. My name is on this damn building.

Nick: Look, vick, you’re making a big deal out of this. It’s nothing. I thought dad had talked to you about not signing the co-ceo contract, but then I saw you react so I couldn’t be sure. That’s it.

Victoria: Nicholas, you don’t have any business knowing that information. You don’t even work here.

Nick: Well, I’m your brother, and I care about you. That means I care about how everything in this building affects you.

Nikki: We all care, darling. Nicholas is just looking after you.

Victor: Just as I do when i ask you to hold off on signing the damn contract. It’s better for you and ashland.

Victoria: Why?

Victor: What do you mean “why”? He just left to go home in the middle of the day to rest.

Victoria: [ Scoffs ] So what?

Victor: That’s why I believe he’s not 100%. I think you should leave the story of your positions and titles alone for now.

Victoria: For how long?

Victor: Until we find out how his health is doing. You’ve been running this company by yourself and done a damn good job.

Victoria: Ashland’s increased presence at newman/locke will only strengthen it.

Victor: You’ve assembled a very good team with him and your mother as coo. Why change that?

Victoria: I know there’s something else going on here. It’s just that none of you are willing to admit it. So until somebody wants to come clean and tell me, this conversation is over. And now I’m gonna go home and check on my husband, who’s feeling under the weather, and that’s all. And I’m telling you for the last time — stay out of my business and leave me and ashland alone. When I get a migraine,

Phyllis: Listen, I can’t possibly understand what you’re going through. I’m sure it’s just a swirl of emotions, but I just want you to know I’m here for you. Take all the time you need.

Jack: Thank you for that.

Phyllis: But I’m not gonna let you second-guess yourself, jack. I mean, you could’ve blown off those texts, and you didn’T. This is a journey you wanted to take, and…I’m here with you. It’s a way to reconnect with your son in some way.

Jack: Yeah, a little late for that, huh?

Phyllis: I don’t think it is. I mean, you can find out the man he became, the man you didn’t know. Hey, at least we could find out who’s been texting you.

Jack: That — that i definitely want to know.

Phyllis: Yes, and you deserve to know that.

Jack: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: So we are not leaving. We’re getting some answers. We didn’t fly all the way here to spend the night in a hotel room and then leave the next morning. Let’s dig in and get the answers.

Jack: Yeah, if I left now, it — it would just haunt me. I want to know who reached out to me. More than that, I want to know something about keemo’s life. I…I want to know that the world he built for himself had some happiness in it, even if it didn’t include me.

Nick: So let me get this straight — victoria wants to make ashland her co-ceo.

Victor: His idea.

Nick: This guy’s unbelievable.

Victor: He is inching closer and closer to wanting to take over the whole damn thing.

Nikki: Allegedly.

Nick: Mom, don’t give him the benefit of the doubt. I mean, he’s lying about being sick, about getting some miraculous cure all so he can get his hands on the company.

Nikki: I am just saying, there may be other information that we don’t have.

Nick: We have enough.

Nikki: Alright, I admit, things aren’t looking good for ashland, and I advised victoria to not sign the contract.

Nick: Obviously, she didn’t listen. And clearly you haven’t told her that he’s lying about being sick.

Victor: I will not tell her anything unless there’s no other option left.

Nick: I’m just not comfortable keeping these secrets from victoria while you figure out how you’re gonna deal with ashland in whatever covert way you settle on.

Victor: I will take care of things.

Nick: I don’t doubt that, dad. But you don’t know how it’s gonna play out. Victoria’s already furious at us.

Victor: Too bad that she’s furious. Beats the alternative — that guy taking over our family’s business.

Nick: This is exactly why i wanted to just stay out of it. But I can’t turn my back on victoria, and I got to make sure that ashland gets everything he deserves.

Victor: Son, I told you, i will take care of everything.

Nick: I hope you’re right.

Nate: How often are you experiencing these symptoms?

Ashland: Not frequently.

Nate: What does that mean? Four or five times a day? Once a month?

Ashland: Couple times a week, maybe a little tired, a little light-headed, but it’s manageable.

Nate: Yeah, it’s manageable now, but what if it gets worse?

Ashland: [ Stammers ] Maybe it’s just a bug.

Nate: A bug, that’s your diagnosis?

Ashland: Okay.

[ Chuckles ] I don’t have your medical expertise, but I don’t really think there’s any reason to jump to the worst possible conclusion.

Nate: There’s every reason in the world to do that. You’re not in the position to take chances. You need to see your oncologist, have some tests run.

Ashland: I’ve already made that call. In fact, that’s the appointment I was talking about earlier. That — I’m on my way there now.

Nate: What are you waiting for? Go.

Ashland: You — I was going, and you stopped me, and now we’re talking.

[ Laughs ]

Nate: Would you like me to come along? You know, just for support. It might help to have a friend in the room who happens to be a doctor.

Ashland: No, that’s not necessary, but I really do appreciate the hell out of it. You are a good man, nate. I’ll tell you what. I will call you and tell you what happens at the appointment, and we’ll set up the dinner for later in the week because we need to talk about your future.

Nate: I look forward to that.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ]

[ Sighs ]

[ Cellphone rings ]

Victoria: Hey. I just stopped by the house to check on you, but you weren’t there. Where did you go? I’m at crimson lights, and I’m getting ready to head back to the office, but I want you to call me, ashland. I’m a little bit worried about you. Hello, how can I?

Nikki: I think nicholas is right to be concerned. When you confronted ashland and demanded that he leave town, he didn’t blink. He didn’t confess. He didn’t have any remorse at all.

Victor: He’ll be gone soon enough.

Nikki: Well, he didn’t agree to leave.

Victor: He will if he knows what’s best for him.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] Victor, you have him trapped in a corner. And that’s when men like ashland are most dangerous. I mean, you know how he is. He — he won’t back down from a fight, same as you. And he’s desperate. I just worry that you have less of a handle on this situation than you think you do.

Victor: If he tries anything, I will show him no mercy.

Sharon: Well, hey, victoria. What can I get you?

Victoria: Coffee to go, please.

Sharon: Okay. Is everything alright?

Victoria: Yes, everything’s fine. I’m just busy. Has ashland stopped in here today?

Sharon: No, I haven’t seen him. Why? You seem worried.

Victoria: Well, maybe I am a little bit. He said that he wasn’t feeling well, and I thought that he went home to rest, but when I went to the house to check on him, he wasn’t there. I guess I ought to know by now that he’s not one to sit around doing nothing, even though he should.

Sharon: Yeah, some people don’t know when to stop. But I hope he’ll take care of himself.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Yes, me too.

Sharon: You know, if I see him, I’ll tell him that you’re looking for him, and then I’ll tell him to go straight home and rest.

Victoria: Thank you, sharon.

Nick: Hey. Can we talk?

Victoria: I was just leaving.

Nick: Just one minute.

Victoria: Okay, fine, one minute.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Look, I don’t like the way things unfolded at the office. I do not want to get caught up in the middle of something with you, dad, and ashland.

Victoria: It seems that you know more about what’s going on than I do, and you just don’t want to say anything to me.

Nick: I just — I need you to know that my only concern is you and that you can rely on me for anything. We haven’t been the same since your wedding, and I hate that. But don’t shut me out, alright? Can you meet me halfway on this?

Phyllis: Wow. Well, the rest of the house is as empty as this room.

Jack: Is this the room he spent most of his time in? Think he woke up early for california sunrise? Was there — was there laughter and music and raucous joy in this house or was this a quiet, contemplative space? I… that’s the hard part. I’m trying to piece together the life of someone that was very important to me, who I don’t — I don’t feel like I knew at all.

Phyllis: For what it’s worth, I think you’re doing a great job.

Jack: I should know so much more. I’m sorry, I… was this his favorite place to sit? Was this…was this where he’d read a book or where he’d write or… oh, my god.

Phyllis: What is it?

Jack: Oh, my god.

Phyllis: What?

Jack: These are letters to me. They all have the same return address — keemo nguyen, at this address. There’s no stamp. These were letters to me that he never sent.

Phyllis: I mean, it seems like he wanted to reach out to you. Listen, um…this is the only box in the place, so obviously it was left here for you.

Jack: Apparently.

Phyllis: Listen, um…I’m gonna leave you alone with this, okay? I saw a coffee shop down the way, and I’ll just — and you can give me a call.

Jack: No, no, no, no. I don’t want to be alone. Would you stay? I’d like you to be here with me.

Phyllis: Of course.

Covid-19 moves fast,

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Victoria: I thought that we were getting back to normal, nicholas. And I really don’t want to lose the progress that we’ve made either, but after what happened today, it’s kind of hard to believe that you’re on my side.

Nick: I am, always.

Victoria: I still know that you don’t like or respect ashland, and it breaks my heart.

Nick: I’m trying. Alright? I’m really trying. Can you accept that?

Victoria: That’s all I want is for my family to accept ashland and to just respect my relationship with him and stop trying to undermine my happiness.

Ashland: What is going on here?

Victoria: Hi.

Ashland: [ Laughs ] Hello, sweetheart. I got your message that you were here. Hello, nick.

Nick: Ashland.

Ashland: Um, I couldn’t help but overhear what you were saying, and I just want to go on the record that victoria speaks for me as well. We both want the same thing. For you to see how much I love her and care about her and that I would do anything to make her happy.

Jack: He signs all of them with his birth name — “keemo.” Not hao. And he’s clearly working through all these conflicting feelings about me. I don’t think he ever intended to mail any of these. I think this was purely therapeutic.

Phyllis: I mean, I don’t want to pry, but if you want to share any of them, I’m happy to listen.

Jack: Yeah, let me show you something. “I said I’d forgiven you, and i tried to let everything that happened go, but after I left genoa city, something inside me could not let me be at peace.”

Phyllis: Okay. Does it make you feel better that he was conflicted?

Jack: Yeah, maybe a little. Here. Um… alright. “I want you to know that I’m sorry about those angry e-mails I sent. I became consumed by grief and rage I felt over the time I lost with my mother. I wonder how different things would’ve been if I’d known she was dying.” Luan didn’t want anyone to know that she was ill. She didn’t want to burden anyone. I… she didn’t tell me. I found out by accident. Kept it to myself.

Phyllis: Listen, that must’ve been very difficult for you to keep that from everybody, including her.

Jack: Yeah, I didn’t tell keemo because I thought I was honoring his mother’s wishes, and…our son could not, would not accept that.

Phyllis: Well, that was very difficult for you, I’m sure, keeping that secret. You know, and I’m sure that you thought maybe, with time, keemo would get past it.

Jack: NO.

[ Chuckles ] He…he kind of did. Is this it? Yeah. “I finally found some peace. I changed my name to hao nguyen. It was my maternal grandfather’s name. Now I’m honoring my mother’s memory. I am freed from the conflict of being jack abbott’s son. I feel like I’m on a new path.”

Phyllis: You’re a wonderful man. You are. And you’re an incredible father. You would’ve been an amazing father to keemo if he would have let you.

Jack: Well, it seemed he found a way to move on.

Phyllis: Did he really? Did he move on? Or did he just let this fester?

Jack: Is this the one? Yeah. “I’m no longer angry, but i can’t look back for fear that rage will return. So while I’ve forgiven you, i can’t ever have a relationship with you. It’s better for everyone. I hope that you can understand that and forgive me. Your son, keemo.”

Phyllis: Jack, you’re being very selfless. The path that keemo chose, it was good for him, it was not good for you.

Jack: No, it was not.

Phyllis: No.

Jack: I hate that he never felt comfortable enough to reach out to me, to respond to my correspondences. I’M… I’m glad at least he found some forgiveness in his heart at the very end.

Phyllis: How do you know it was the end?

Jack: Well, I — every one of these letters was written in the last 12 months. It’s as if he knew he didn’t have much longer.

Phyllis: Well, the obituary said that he died of a heart attack.

Jack: Yeah, and I know and that’s very sudden, but maybe he was diagnosed with some kind of condition, and…and that’s why he was working through all of this. Maybe, was this — was this about a health condition? Oh, god, there are so many questions.

Phyllis: And we’re gonna get the answers. We are. I promise you.

Victor: There, my darling.

Nikki: Oh, nate! How are you?

Nate: Excellent. Always good to see the two of you.

Nikki: Well, thank you. You as well.

Victor: You’ll be seeing more of dr. Hastings at newman towers.

Nikki: Oh?

Nate: I’m considering taking a job with newman/locke.

Nikki: You would really leave medicine?

Nate: Sometimes need to make a change to keep things interesting.

Nikki: Oh, well, it can get very interesting at newman/locke. But as the person in charge of operations, I’d prefer it didn’T. I — I like smooth sailing.

Nate: I promise not to rock that boat.

Nikki: Huh, wow. Well, I guess memorial’s loss is our gain. I hope I get to welcome you to the team.

Nate: Me too.

Victor: You mean the deal is not done yet?

Nate: No, I still have to hash things out with ashland. I saw him earlier, and we were trying to set up a time to talk things through.

Victor: You saw ashland today?

Nate: He was just here.

Victor: Oh. Huh.

Nikki: Um, how did he seem?

Nate: What do you mean?

Nikki: Oh, I don’t know, just physically, did he seem okay?

Nate: Last time we spoke, you were asking me about his condition.

Victor: Dr. Hastings, ashland is now a member of our family, you know. We’re concerned about him. And when we saw him earlier, he had a hard time breathing, so you didn’t see anything wrong with him?

Ashland: You don’t need to worry about victoria, especially where I’m concerned. And besides, she does not need protecting.

Nick: [ Clears throat ] That is good to know.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ] You know, I think it would mean a lot to her if she knew you were on her side.

Victoria: I was just telling him that.

Nick: I’m always on her side.

Victoria: I want to believe that.

Nick: You should. It’s true.

Ashland: Well, that’s fantastic. I just want victoria to have anything her heart desires, so how about this, nick? Why don’t we all just work together, hmm?

Sharon: Ashland, nice to see you.

Ashland: Ah.

Sharon: I made your favorite. I’m sorry to interrupt, but i have some news about mariah and tessa I want to talk to you about. If you don’t mind that I steal him for a minute.

Ashland: No.

Nick: We’ll talk later. Hey, thanks for the coffee. I don’t remember ordering it.

Sharon: You didn’T. I just thought you needed it.

Nick: Okay, what’s going on with tessa and mariah?

Sharon: They have decided on a wedding idea, but that was just an excuse.

Nick: Excuse for what?

Sharon: I just really wanted to get you away from ashland. Nick, I’ve known you a long time, and I know that you were a split second away from doing something you would regret. You can’t go back in there.

Everyone remembers the

moment they heard,

Phyllis: The backyard is extraordinary. It’s gorgeous. There’s a garden and an orange tree, so many flowers. You want to go back there?

Jack: You know, I think we should leave.

Phyllis: Oh. I don’t think so. Look, there are so many more letters to go through.

Jack: You know what? It’s — it’s kind of overwhelming.

Phyllis: I’m sure it is. You can’t stop now.

Jack: You try to make the right choices, you…try to make the world a better place, you try to help, and you look back and all you can see…

[ Sighs ]

Phyllis: What is this?

Jack: What? What is it?

Phyllis: It’s a picture of keemo with two women and a young girl.

Jack: He looks so happy.

Phyllis: There’s something written on the back.

Jack: “Vietnam, june 2012.”

Nick: I was this close to losing it with ashland. You know, telling him what i think about him and all the lies he’s told. But it would’ve been a disaster. Thanks for interrupting.

Sharon: And you would’ve made a scene in my coffee house, and I can’t let that happen.

Nick: It would’ve just come back to bite me. I mean, ashland would’ve denied it, vick would’ve sided with him. She’s already on the defensive.

Sharon: Why do you say that?

Nick: I went to check on her earlier and kind of created this accidental minefield with her and the parents, but, uh… it’s okay ’cause dad has a plan.

Sharon: Of course he does.

Nick: I don’t know any of the details, but dad seems to think he can get ashland out of our lives for good without victoria ever knowing the truth.

Sharon: I’m just worried about the fallout from all of this. It’s gonna take a toll on your whole family. I’m so sorry this is happening.

Nick: Thanks. I really appreciate you pulling me away from that, and knowing that you are always there for me.

Sharon: Anytime.

Nate: Victor, you know how i feel about disclosing medical information.

Victor: Nate, you made your stance clear last time we talked.

Nate: So you can see why I’d be reluctant to give an opinion about ashland’s health.

Victor: But I’m not asking for test results. I just want to know if you thought he looked healthy.

Nate: He did seem a bit under the weather, but that could be stress or just a common cold. It’s best not to presume anything.

Nikki: You’re right, of course.

Victor: Thank you for stopping by.

Nate: Bye.

Nikki: Bye, nate.

Victor: What do you think?

Nikki: [ Sighs ] You mean the fact that ashland came here instead of going home like he said he would?

Victor: It was a lie.

Nikki: I know you think he’s lying about everything.

Victor: Because he is.

Nikki: Maybe he just wanted to stop and pick up some food on the way home. Maybe he wasn’t acting at all. Maybe he just isn’t feeling well.

Victor: Sweetheart, that’s the least likely of all possibilities, alright?

Nikki: I don’t know. I’m still struggling with the idea that he lied about his condition.

Victor: And I understand how you’d want to think that way, for victoria’s sake. I’m telling you he has deceived our daughter in the most profound way.

Nikki: What if the information that michael got in peru is wrong? I mean, maybe those doctors just said what they thought you wanted to hear in the hopes of a big payout.

Victor: Sweetheart, how long has michael baldwin been my lawyer? I trust that man.

Nikki: I understand that. I am just saying that we need to really be certain about this situation because the stakes are too high. So before you do anything, we need more information.

Ashland: I hope we were able to get through to nick.

Victoria: Time will tell. Right now, I’m still a little bit more concerned about you. If you’re not feeling well, you shouldn’t be out, you should be at home in bed.

Ashland: No, I’m — really, I’m much better now.

Victoria: Well, I’m still worried about you, and I hope that my father’s interference in our plans didn’t contribute to how you’re feeling.

Ashland: It was just a momentary thing. I’m fine.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Good. And I want you to know that I am still 100% committed to moving forward with the co-ceo arrangement. Have you signed the contract yet?

Ashland: Not yet. Um…

Victoria: Why not?

Ashland: Oh. Sorry. Mm, okay. Um, I’m sorry, where were we?

Victoria: I asked you if you had a chance to sign the contract.

Ashland: Right. Uh…no. Victoria…there’s something I need to tell you about your father.

Recap written by Christine

Jack looked at a picture of Keemo with some other women. He commented that his son looked so happy. Jack recognized Mai, Keemo’s half sister, but he didn’t know who the other two people were. Jack was frustrated because he wasn’t sure what to make of all this – lured here by an anonymous person, who had now gone radio silent. Phyllis suggested that this person just wanted to point Jack in the right direction.

Jack and Phyllis decided to go through Keemo’s box again and look for clues. Phyllis pulled out a silk scarf, and Jack took it from her. She asked if he recognized it. He didn’t, and that was the issue. He didn’t know anything about Keemo. To Jack, it was one thing to read letters Keemo addressed to him, but it was another to be rifling through through Keemo’s most prized possessions. Phyllis noted that Jack was going back and forth between being curious and feeling like he was violating Keemo’s memory. She bluntly told him that Keemo was gone. She said this box wasn’t left here by accident – the person who sent the texts wanted him to go through it. She understood if he didn’t want her to go through this with him. She was trying to be supportive. She told him he couldn’t give up. She thought the answers he was looking for were here.

Phyllis thought they should go rest and get some food. Jack said that was a good idea, but he went back to the box. He found tickets to a Broadway show and wondered who Keemo took with him. He found more postcards from Vietnam, a decoration from a wedding, and a necklace. Jack flashed back to giving that necklace to Luan on Christmas 1995. She wished she’d found something good to give him. He said she already gave him the greatest gift of all – the son he’d always wanted.

Jack told Phyllis about giving the gift to Luan. After she died, Jack sent it to Keemo, along with some other keepsakes. Jack found a picture of himself and Luan at their wedding in the box. He cried because it was a sign that Keemo never completely erased Jack from his life.

Jack thought he’d lost Luan forever, but the stars aligned and they found each other. Keemo had been hurt when they tracked him down at first – he felt abandoned. Jack won Keemo over, and he’d been the best man at the wedding. That was why it hurt more when Keemo cut Jack out. The wedding had been a mix of American and Vietnamese traditions. Luan wore red. There was a flashback to the wedding. In the present, Jack said that it was a miracle that he found Luan. Again. “We were supposed to spend the rest of our lives together as a family.

Jack found a statement of paternity in Keemo’s things. It was something Jack had drawn up and gave to Keemo after the wedding. Phyllis said it must’ve meant something to Keemo. It made Jack wonder if he and Keemo could’ve reconciled if they’d seen each other face to face. Phyllis saw no need for Jack to torture himself with what-ifs. Jack still wondered what if he’d disregarded all those angry emails and stood firm. He said it was a parent’s job to know when your child needed you to push back and see that there were needs underneath all that anger. Phyllis didn’t think Jack should go down that path. It was also hard for her to watch him struggle with this when there was no solution. He wasn’t sure he could get closure without asking the tough questions. She understood, but she didn’t think this was the time. She thought they should deal with the real reason they came here – figuring out who was sending the texts. He agreed that they should focus. He picked up the photo again, and she wondered if one of the women in it was sending the text messages.

Found another doctor who gave info to Baldwin. Took care of all three of them,” the text Ashland received said. Victoria was waiting for Ashland when he walked into the office. She wondered what took him so long, since they both left Crimson Lights at the same time. He said he got caught up by a traffic light. Earlier, he’d told her that there was something he needed to tell her about her father. Victoria wanted to know what was going on. She asked what Victor said to him in private.

Ashland was hesitant because Victoria was close to her dad. She said he knew she had a complicated relationship with her father, and she didn’t need to be protected from his latest machinations. Ashland told Victoria that some quack was saying he’d lied about his treatment and falsified medical records and faked cancer. Ashland said that, for some reason, Victor trusted this person. Victoria thought that was insane. Ashland said it got worse – Victor was threatening to tell Victoria all this if Ashland didn’t disappear from her life. Ashland was adamant that he did not fake his cancer. Victoria said this was outrageous. Ashland agreed, and that was why he was telling her this. He didn’t trust her father. Ashland didn’t want Victoria to hear this news from anyone else. Victoria asked why Victor suddenly turned on Ashland. Ashland didn’t know, unless Victor honestly believed the lies from this horrible doctor. Victoria said she met with Ashland’s oncologist in NY, and she’d seen his medical records – there was no doubt he had cancer. Victoria was sure her father would come to her if he really believed this, so she couldn’t imagine what Victor was thinking.

Ashland said Victor was a protective father and protective mogul, and maybe he didn’t want someone without Newman blood running the company. Victoria said people outside the family had been the CEO of Newman Enterprises. Ashland said Victor might want him out of the company. Victoria couldn’t believe her father would think she would find Ashland capable of doing something like this. He said that he’d been called the Locke Ness Monster. She hated the name – it bore no resemblance to the man she loved. He said the name fit like a glove once, but he changed because of her.

Victoria said Ashland was self-made, and she had nothing to do with the man he’d become. He thought she underestimated the effect she’d had on him. She said he’d gone through a lot, and it gave him a new perspective. He agreed, but he said their love made him a better man. He was eternally grateful she’d banished that other side of him forever. She’d learned that you couldn’t change a person unless they wanted to be changed. She knew he’d made bad choices, but so had her family, her father chief among them. That was why she couldn’t believe and accept that Victor turned on her and Ashland.

At Newman Media, Sally had been hesitant about leaving fashion for the business world, but she found this invigorating. Sally shifted gears and asked Adam how he thought Victoria was doing. She noted that he’d said Victoria might be headed for heartbreak. At that point, Victor showed up wanting a private word with his son. Sally said she’d go to Society, and Adam said he’d join her when he was finished. She left. Victor hoped Adam kept the details of Ashland’s latest deception to himself. Adam saw that Sally and Adam were close, and she wasn’t known for her deception. Adam hadn’t said a word about Ashland faking his illness. Victor told Ashland to get out of town and leave Victoria, or else Victor would tell her everything.

Victor said that if Victoria found out Ashland used her for the merger, she’d be devastated. Adam said that she’d be devastated either way, unless Nick was right and Victoria forgave Ashland for this, just as she forgave him for everything else. Victor didn’t think that would happen, but he was trying to protect the family by insisting that Ashland get out of town. Victor thought that it would be easier for Victoria to get over being left than to learn that Ashland used her and that the wedding was all a ruse.

Victor said he hadn’t been able to contact Michael since he confronted Ashland. Michael had assured Victor that he was sending all the pertinent information by courier. Victor got a call from an investigator. Michael and the two Peruvian doctors had disappeared. Adam wondered if Ashland got to them. Victor said he was going to deal with it.

Lauren and Chloe were at Society. Lauren was missing Michael. She’d been hesitant about him taking this job for Victor, because she knew it would take a lot of time, but now he was in Peru, and he kept saying he was coming home soon, but that clearly wasn’t true. She’d been trying to contact him since last night, but he wasn’t responding. Chloe said, if Michael was anything like Kevin, he didn’t like texting at work. Lauren sent another text. Lauren needed a distraction, so she asked how Chloe and Chelsea were coming along with the Sally-free fashion label. Chloe said that she and Chelsea were a little behind for the summer deadline, but Chelsea had pulled strings, and she thought they’d meet their goals. Sally walked in and asked how Chloe’s new line was going. Chloe said it was in the beginning stages, but it was going great. Chloe asked about Sally’s job. Sally found her new niche – she was good at business, and she and Adam made a great team.

Lauren excused herself. Sally wondered if it was something she said. “No doubt,” Chloe said. Chloe was happy Lauren stepped away though, because she wanted to talk to Sally. Chloe loved working with Sally, and she was proud of what they created at Newman Fashion. Sally said things had been great until Chelsea got involved. Sally really enjoyed working with Chloe too, and she was sorry it didn’t last, but it seemed like everyone landed where they were supposed to. Chloe hoped Sally hadn’t given up on her dreams. Sally saw Adam walking in and said she hadn’t given up on them at all.

Adam asked if Lauren heard from Michael. Lauren said that, since Michael was on business for Adam’s father, it seemed like they’d know more about what Michael was doing than she did. Adam was sure Lauren talked to Michael more often than Victor did. Adam and Sally went to their table. Lauren was feeling even more worried after Adam’s fake nonchalance. She called Victor and asked if he’d talked to Michael. He said he had been in regular contact with him. She asked him to tell Michael to call her the next time they talked. The call ended. Lauren told Chloe that she didn’t feel any better.

Sally thought she should be included on what was going on with the Newmans, since she worked at the family business. Adam told Sally not to push it. He told her that, for her own protection, she didn’t want to be anywhere near this, because it might not turn out how Victor hoped. She asked if Adam would be affected if Victor’s plan failed. Adam doubted it would effect him in a bad way. He said that if Victor miscalculated and it created a rift with Victoria, the dynamic might change at Newman Locke, which might work in Adam’s favor.

Victor called Ashland. “No more stalling. You have one hour or I take everything I know straight to Victoria,” Victor threatened. “Do it. I’m not going anywhere,” Ashland replied.

Recap written by Christine

In LA, Phyllis supported Jack worked through his grief about Keemo and sorted through the box of Keemo’s belongings. Through flashbacks, Jack told Phyllis about his life with Luan. He was touched when he discovered a picture of himself with Luan that Keemo had kept. Jack was curious about the women in the picture with Keemo. He wondered if one of them was behind the texts. Ashland received an ominous text stating that Michael and the doctors who gave him information had been taken care of. Ashland told Victoria that Victor had been taken in by some quack who was saying Ashland never had cancer. Victoria was sure Ashland had cancer, as she’d talked to his oncologist in NY. Victoria didn’t understand why Victor would think such a thing or turn on her and Ashland.

Sally was happy about making the jump to the business world. Victor let Adam know about the ultimatum he gave Ashland. Adam wasn’t sure Victor’s plan would work. Lauren was becoming worried because she hadn’t been able to reach Michael. Chloe tried to keep Lauren positive. Victor got a call from his investigator saying that Michael and the two Peruvian doctors had disappeared. However, when Lauren called Victor to ask about Michael, he didn’t disclose what he’d learned. Sally and Chloe wished each other well in their new jobs. Sally tried to get Adam to give her the details on the Newman family drama, and he told her that, for her own good, it was best that she didn’t know. Adam thought that if Victor’s plan failed, it would cause a rift with Victor and Victoria, and that might work in Adam’s favor.

Nick: If fireworks are detonating between ashland, dad, and victoria, I want the details.

Adam: Well, at the moment, I’m just speculating. Look, you’re a busy man. I’m happy to give you a call and give you an update when there is some news.

Nick: I’m not going anywhere.

Adam: Okay, well, can I take this to mean that you’ve changed your mind? You’re ready to team up with dad in calling ashland out for this hoax?

Nick: I don’t know what I’m gonna do, but if victoria’s in trouble, I can’t walk away from her.

Adam: Well, it’s too bad you weren’t here earlier. You could’ve helped me stall her while dad was confronting locke. God knows I am her least favorite person. I tried, but she did not stay long.

Nick: How hard did you try?

Adam: I’m not sure what you’re getting at.

Nick: Things could be blowing up with dad and victoria right now. I don’t think you’d have a problem with that. You might even be glad.

Adam: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: Ashland, are you in there?

[ Knock on door ]

Victor: Do we have a deal?

Nikki: Victoria.

Victoria: Hi. How did the marketing meeting go?

Nikki: All projects are on target to meet their deadlines.

Victoria: Thanks again for covering for me.

Nikki: I’ll fill you in on the details.

Victoria: I’d appreciate that.

[ Sighs ]

Nikki: After you tell me why we’re locked out of your office.

Victoria: I don’t know. Your guess is as good as mine. But I left my key in there when I went to newman media.

Nikki: I have one. I’ll get it.

Victor: I have proof that you have been lying about your illness from the beginning.

Ashland: No. All you have is theory.

Victor: I can share the evidence with victoria. I’d rather not. I don’t want her to be upset unnecessarily. If you have any love for her at all, you’ll agree to my terms. You will suffer a sudden relapse, you will have to go back to peru for treatment. Then you cut your ties with victoria as painlessly as possible. If you don’t follow my terms, you will suffer the consequences of your deception.

[ Door opens ]

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Someone want to tell me what the hell’s going on here?

Abby: If you’re here to see dominic, your timing couldn’t be any better.

Devon: Really? Why, what happened?

Abby: Well, he just got out of the bath and he smells delicious.

Devon: Uh-oh, a bath in the middle of the day — I hate to ask. Why?

Abby: He tried sweet potatoes and peas for the first time.

Devon: Oh, okay.

Abby: Yeah, it was a mess.

[ Laughs ]

Devon: Any pictures of it?

Abby: Only like a million.

Devon: Oh, good.

Abby: Just so happy that his appetite is finally coming back.

Devon: Oh, I know. He’ll be packing away the food in no time.

Abby: Yeah. Well, louise is upstairs getting him dressed if you want to head up to the nursery.

Devon: Yeah, yeah, I did come by to see him, but I also came by to ask you and chance if you guys would be okay with him coming and staying over for a couple days.

Abby: Oh, um…like today?

Devon: Yeah, only if it’s okay with you, though, ’cause i figure his recovery’s going so well that we can get our visits back on schedule.

Abby: Well, yes, he is improving, but we still have to be very careful.

Devon: Oh, yeah, absolutely. I know that. I would be extremely careful and attentive.

Abby: No, of course you would. I’m not implying otherwise. I just — I know that you’ve been wanting to spend some time with him at your place.

Devon: Yeah.

Abby: Hey.

Chance: Hey, guys.

Abby: How was your walk?

Chance: It was good.

Devon: I just stopped by to see dominic.

Chance: Oh, yeah.

Abby: Yeah, devon was asking if he could take him to his place for a couple of days.

Chance: Oh, well, I get why. He’s a fun little kid to have around, huh?

Devon: Yeah.

Abby: Yeah, it’s just hard for me to think about him not being here at night. You know, I’m still waking up a couple times a night to check on him.

Devon: Yeah, I completely get where you’re coming from. I’ve been waking up myself in the middle of the night worrying about him, and he’s not even in my house.

Chance: Well, maybe it’s not such a bad idea. I told you I was a little worried, given what’s happening later.

Devon: Wait, why’s that? What’s happening? My skin but better.

Chance: I got my first therapy session later on today.

Devon: Really? With sharon?

Chance: No, no, someone she recommended. Ex-military.

Devon: Oh, that’s perfect. That’s perfect. Good for you, man.

Chance: Thank you. You know, without your words of encouragement the other day, I — well, I’d probably still be avoiding all this. Thank you.

Abby: Hmm, what’d I miss?

Chance: Oh, nothing. Devon just helped me realize that I can’t do this by myself. It’s time to find some help. You know, since we’re being honest with each other, I, uh — I’m pretty nervous about it, and I’m worried how I’m gonna be afterwards. I don’t know if I’m gonna be off, and I would hate for dominic to see me like that.

Abby: Yeah, chance is right. I’m sorry if I was hesitant before.

Devon: No, please. You don’t ever have to apologize to me.

Abby: Okay, well, I’ll go get dominic’s things ready.

Devon: Sounds good. Thank you. And, hey, I appreciate you helping her be cool with it.

Chance: And we’re lucky to have a friend like you to lean on, really.

Devon: I’m the lucky one to have you guys.

Chance: I meant what I said, too. If you hadn’t opened up and told me about your struggles, how hard it was for you, I’d — I’d still be toughing this out on my own, I feel like.

Devon: Well, let me tell you, it takes a very strong person to make the call that you did, so just know that what you’re doing isn’t just gonna benefit, it’s gonna benefit your whole family.

Chance: Yeah, that’s what I’m hoping for.

Devon: It will. And know that it’s not just like flipping a light switch, it’s gonna take time.

Chance: I know, I know, i know. There’s a lot that I have to face that I don’t really want to face.

Devon: I’m sure, but know that it’s worth it. Definitely is, and I have zero doubt that you will make it to the other side.

Chance: Thank you.

Devon: Yeah.

Adam: There’s no part of me that’s enjoying this situation.

Nick: You and vick aren’t close. You don’t support each other.

Adam: I don’t think that’s a fair statement, given everything that I did to support her at her wedding.

Nick: We both know you did that for dad, not her.

Adam: Regardless of what my motives were, I did a hell of a lot more than you did — that is for sure. You were not at the ceremony. You weren’t even at the reception.

Nick: That’s because I told her who ashland locke really was, and she asked me to stay away.

Adam: Okay. Be that as it may, neither you nor I wanted this guy to be part of the family, and after dad welcomed him with open arms, after he was fully aware of what he was capable of, I decided to trust his judgment, and I kept my mouth shut.

Nick: And you have been filled with resentment ever since, especially after ashland and victoria bought newman media and then you became their subordinate.

Adam: [ Scoffs ] Wrong. Ashland is an unbearable, back-stabbing son of a bitch — among other things. But, yeah, am I happy that I’m not gonna have to answer to him, assuming dad’s plan — whatever it is — works? Sure. Break out the champagne. But that is completely different than celebrating victoria’s broken heart after a failed marriage. Not that vindictive or small. So maybe you’re projecting your own feelings about the situation, nicholas.

Nick: Not the case at all. Was my prediction about ashland doing something awful right? Yes, but I meant it when I said I would rather be wrong about that. Victoria’s had to deal with more betrayals than anyone I’ve ever met. How do you think she’s gonna react when she finds out that ashland has been playing her for a fool? She’s gonna be crushed.

Victoria: Well, who wants to tell me why I was locked out of my office?

Ashland: Actually, I think that was my fault. I must’ve inadvertently locked the door when I came in.

Victoria: Daddy, what are you doing here? I thought that you wanted to meet me in adam’s office.

Ashland: Also my fault. Victor reached out to me and wanted to talk to me privately.

Victoria: Why?

Ashland: Well, the same thing that we wanted to talk to him about, basically — our plan to name a co-ceo of newman/locke. Apparently nikki was right, and your father has, uh…reservations.

Victor: By the way, when did you know about this?

Nikki: I only learned about it earlier today. I suggested victoria discuss it with you.

Victoria: I should ask you the same question, daddy. How did you know about our plans? Don’t tell me you have another mole in business affairs.

Victor: Sweetheart, that’s nonsense, okay? Nothing to do with it, and how i found out is not the issue.

Victoria: Well, if you’re going to be my advisor, there has to be a modicum of trust between us. Why did you want to talk to ashland without me?

Victor: Sweetheart, it isn’t like that at all. Ashland and I had a very productive conversation. I think we are seeing eye-to-eye. I mean, correct me if I’m wrong. I’m steve.

Abby: I love you.

Devon: Ready?

Abby: Call me anytime.

Devon: You do the same.

Abby: Bye.

Devon: Okay?

Abby: Have fun.

Devon: Thank you. I’ll see you guys.

Chance: See you guys.

Devon: Bye.

Abby: [ Sighs ] Is it ever gonna be any easier watching him leave?

Chance: Oh, well, look at it this way — by the time he goes off to his first day of school, you’ll be the one tough mom who’s not crying at all.

Abby: Stop it right now, ’cause I don’t even want to think about that. But you’re right. Dominic is gonna have a great time at devon’s, and I will be able to give you my undivided attention when you get home from therapy. Hey, why don’t I just ride with you? I can go shopping or grab a coffee while you’re meeting with dr. Huffman.

Chance: No, it’s all good. Thank you, though. I’ll be fine. And who knows? I might not even click with this guy. Takes a couple meetings to find the person you want, right? So who knows?

Abby: Hey, no pressure for some sort of breakthrough. Today is all about feeling it out, testing the waters, and just opening up about your feelings to someone.

Chance: [ Sighs ] Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Abby: Hey, no matter what happens, everything is gonna be okay because I am gonna be here waiting for you when you get home.

Chance: [ Exhales sharply ] You don’t know how much I’m hanging onto that.

Abby: Mm.

Victoria: Ashland and I are a team. We make decisions together, and I don’t need to be protected from that, unless your goal is to divide and conquer.

Ashland: No, it’s okay, victoria. Your father and I both want the same things — we want what’s best for you, we want what’s best for newman/locke, so now that you’re here and you see what’s — what’s going on, i think it might be best that your father express his concerns to you directly.

Victoria: Agreed.

[ Chuckles ] So what issue could you possibly have with ashland becoming co-ceo of a company that bears his name?

Victor: Sweetheart, I just think it’s too soon, you know? I mean, who’s to guarantee that ashland’s health will improve? I mean, think of all the stress you would be under on a day-to-day basis. He might have a relapse.

Victoria: I think there has to be more to it than that. I mean, obviously ashland has cleared this with his doctor, and he’s agreed. You know who ashland is at his core. He’s the same kind of person that we are. He — he’s fueled by his work. It energizes him. Taking this role, it’s what’s best for him.

Victor: If that is what he tells you, then, you know…

Victoria: Nobody has to tell me anything. I see it for myself. He’s been getting stronger, he’s doing wonderful. I mean, we’ve been bouncing ideas off of each other. We’re totally in sync, and that’s exactly how a company needs to be run — with both of us firing on all cylinders.

Nikki: You know, I think victor has a good point. I mean, really, it might be best to increase ashland’s involvement a little bit at a time. I worry that if we throw him in the deep end too soon, it could be too much for him.

Victoria: Well, if his condition worsens, then he’ll just take a step back. But I don’t see that happening. And in the meantime, what logical reason do we have to deny him the title and respect and the authority that he deserves? In fact, I am prepared to sign that agreement right now. I’ve been telling everyone… Do you have a life insurance policy you no longer need? Now you can sell your policy – even a term policy – for an immediate cash payment. We thought we had planned carefully for our retirement. But we quickly realized we needed a way to supplement our income. If you have $100,000 or more of life insurance, you may qualify to sell your policy. Don’t cancel or let your policy lapse without finding out what it’s worth. Visit coventrydirect.Com to find out if your policy qualifies. Or call the number on your screen. Coventry direct, redefining insurance. I just heard something amazing!

Nikki: Victoria, are you sure you want to do this?

Victoria: Mother.

Nikki: Well, what’s the harm in waiting a day or two, give it some more thought?

Ashland: I would not be opposed to that at all. Really, if a little more time, a little more consideration would make everyone feel good about this…

Victoria: Everyone does not need to feel good about this. My father wanted to weight in, I was willing to listen, but in the end, it’s my decision to make, and I know this is the right thing to do. Ashland?

Ashland: [ Gasps ] Just — just —

[ Breathing heavily ]

Victoria: Ashland, what’s going on?

Nikki: Oh, my gosh.

Victoria: Are you okay?

Ashland: Yes, I — I’m okay. I just — I’m sorry, I just —

Victoria: No, it’s okay.

Ashland: I think I just need to get a little air.

Nikki: I’ll get you some water.

Ashland: Can we just do this later, please?

Victoria: Yes, of course.

Ashland: I just need to step outside. I’m sorry.

Victoria: I’ll come with you. No, it’s okay, don’t be ridiculous.

Ashland: Listen, I’m really sorry, I really am sorry.

Nikki: Let us know if there’s anything we can do. Oh, my god.

Victor: You see?

Nikki: What — what I saw was a man suffering.

Victor: What you saw was a liar.

Nikki: What do you mean?

Victor: This was a performance he put on for your sake, for victoria’s sake. He did exactly what I asked him to do.

Adam: Pretty ironic, right? Victoria gets all kinds of praise for making the merger of the decade, when she was actually falling into a trap. And now she’s bringing the whole family down with her.

Nick: Adam, if I find out you’re using this to your advantage in any way —

Adam: I am not the one that you need to worry about. None of this is my fault. If you want to punish somebody, go find locke. But that would mean that you would need to get out of neutral territory, okay? So stop trying to be the good guy when you don’t have any skin in the game.

Nick: I’m not neutral, I’m pissed, and I’m staying out of it because I don’t know what dad’s plan is and I have no interest in being a pawn. But if vick is in trouble, she knows I will always be there for her.

Adam: What, a shoulder to cry on? Think she’s gonna need a little more than that after this.

Nick: And that’s what I keep coming back to. Saw this coming 50 miles away. I’ve tried to tell anybody about it who would listen, but they didn’t want to hear it. So what are my options? I can either stay on the sidelines, just tell vick that she made her bed and it’s not my problem, or I can walk away and let ashland get away with everything he’s ever done.

Adam: Well, which one is easier to live with?

Nick: [ Scoffs ] Neither.

Adam: Nick, you always pretend to be above it all, but the truth is, when the chips are down and someone comes after one of the newmans, you’re gonna get pulled back in just like the rest of us.

Devon: There you go. You remember this place, buddy? Do you remember? Remember your uncle moses and amanda and your bedroom upstairs with that big window? You can see the city out of it. Yeah. I want you to know you always have a home here, little man, full of people that love you very, very much. Even when you’re grown and you have a family of your own, you walk through those doors and you will be home. ‘Cause you belong here, too. That’s right. There you go.

Dr. Huffman: Have a seat. Make yourself comfortable.

Chance: Thank you, thank you.

[ Sighs ] So, uh, you’re ex-military?

Dr. Huffman: Army, captain, three tours overseas.

Chance: Alright. See any action?

Dr. Huffman: [ Sighs ] Things I couldn’t forget.

Chance: Stuck with you, too.

Dr. Huffman: Yeah, you know, I got help. Sometimes it’s not always easy for guys like us.

Chance: Yeah. Yeah, yeah.

Dr. Huffman: How’d you find your way to me?

Chance: Sharon rosales. She’s a close family friend.

Dr. Huffman: Oh, yeah.

Chance: She — she thought I’d be more comfortable with someone who served.

Dr. Huffman: Are you? Comfortable now.

Chance: [ Sighs ] Far from it.

Dr. Huffman: [ Chuckles ] Thank you for your honesty. I can’t think of anybody who’s at ease their first day of therapy.

Chance: Alright, that’s good to hear.

Dr. Huffman: So, we’ll start with the easy stuff. Why are you here?

Chance: Um…well, I just want to be me again.

(Upbeat music)

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Devon: See? That’s how we play music. Just like that. That’s right. And if you don’t like the piano, you can play whatever you want, man. You can play the drums one day. You can play the trumpet. Yeah, or the guitar, maybe. Or you know what you can do? You can be a producer just like me, if you want, and then you can fill the whole world with new sounds. That’d be cool, huh? Gosh, man, I can’t wait to find out what you’re gonna be. But take your time. Take your time, ’cause you have your whole life. You’ll find it out. That’s right.

[ Chuckles ]

Dr. Huffman: Tell me about your family.

Chance: Yeah, yeah. Um…been married a year and a half. My wife’s name is abby. She’s great. She’s a great mom, very supportive, very patient with me. She’s a catch.

Dr. Huffman: How many children?

Chance: One so far. He was born when I was in spain, actually. Well, you know what? Actually, it’s a little bit more complicated than that. He’s not my biological son. You see, before I left the us, i was shot, and I —

Dr. Huffman: That happened when you were a civilian?

Chance: Yeah, yeah, that’s — that’s a long story. Actually, I was a detective at the gcpd for a while.

Dr. Huffman: Oh. We can circle back around.

Chance: Okay. Anyways, as soon as we got married, we tried to have children. She had some medical issues that prevented her from carrying a pregnancy to term, and for me, it was an infection that I got after I was shot in the hospital. So we had to use a donor and a surrogate.

Dr. Huffman: Your wife’s egg, but a donor for you, and someone else carried the baby?

Chance: Yeah, I know. Takes a village, right?

Dr. Huffman: Sounds like you really wanted to start a family.

Chance: Yeah, we always said the sooner, the better. That’s why we didn’t wait till i got back. We just moved on forward.

Dr. Huffman: How long were you away?

Chance: Almost a year.

Dr. Huffman: The whole pregnancy.

Chance: Yeah. Yeah.

Dr. Huffman: That had to be difficult.

Chance: Yeah, I missed my son being born.

Dr. Huffman: I’m sorry.

Chance: I really missed a lot. My wife keeps telling me that I’ll catch up, you know? But… I mean, see, doc, there’s this — there’s this guy, he’s the donor, he helped us. He’s a close family friend. And now we’re sharing custody with him.

Dr. Huffman: Now? So it wasn’t always that way?

Chance: No, that’s — that’s recent. At his request.

Dr. Huffman: Has that change been difficult for you?

Chance: Not really. For me, no. For my wife, yeah. And I just see the way that he is with my son — he adores him. He does anything for that kid. Recently, he needed medical intervention, and devon was there, no questions asked.

Dr. Huffman: How’s your son doing?

Chance: He’s good. Thanks for asking. He’s getting better every day. Um…it’s me I’m a little worried about. I, uh — I just feel like I’m — feel like I’m still waiting.

Dr. Huffman: For what?

Chance: To feel connected to him. To feel like he’s my son. Like a father should be. You know, the way that I think that I would feel if I was the man I was before I went on that mission.

Dr. Huffman: Okay. Sounds like we need to talk about what happened to you over there.

Chance: [ Sighs ]

Sally: I saw your father and brother leaving your office earlier. More family drama?

Adam: [ Sighs ] Never-ending.

Sally: Which category does it fall under — none of my business or something that could affect newman media?

Adam: Um…the latter.

Sally: I’m intrigued. And as your coo, a little concerned.

Adam: Well, I’ll spare you the details. Um…long story short, the whirlwind romance between ashland and my sister is likely about to implode.

Victor: Ashland can keep up this charade, okay? And then he will suddenly have a relapse and he will have to return to peru for “treatment.” And then he will cut off all ties to victoria and newman/locke.

Nikki: So he admitted to the lie?

Victor: Sweetheart, you saw how he backed off from signing that document. He’s a monster. I really need to understand that.

Nikki: Victor, what if you’re mistaken? I mean, what if ashland really is sick? Maybe he just wanted to get victoria alone, and he could be telling her right now what you accused him of. If that’s the case, she’s gonna side with him and be furious with you. Oh, victoria, we thought you left with ashland.

Victoria: He insisted on being alone.

Victor: I’m so glad you came back.

Victoria: Well, that makes two of us, because I want to make something absolutely clear to you. What you did to ashland is utterly unacceptable. Sweet pillows of softness!

Dr. Huffman: Tell me about the night that everything went sideways in spain.

Chance: Um…our cover was blown. We had no warning, no indication. I was walking in to the safe house carrying groceries. Next thing I know, all hell’s breaking loose.

Dr. Huffman: An explosion?

Chance: It was like earth just got ripped in half, you know? I was blown back, hit my head. I couldn’t see, I couldn’t hear. I was pretty out of it. Once I came back and the smoke cleared…I just saw nothing. Absolutely nothing. Our whole building was just gone. And I — I made my way through, you know, what was left, looking for my team. Nothing. Um…then I had some — some men approaching the site. You know, they were walking. They weren’t running, they were walking real slow, real deliberate. And it was our targets. They came looking for survivors. Came to, uh — came to finish the job.

Dr. Huffman: What did you do?

Chance: I, um…I buried myself in some rubble and i played dead. Not my proudest moment. Anyways, emergency personnel showed up. You know, we all heard the sirens. They took off. I made sure everything was clear, and then I did the same. I got out of town and I found some friends that I served in iraq with. Former medics. Patched me up, let me hide out there.

DR. Huffman: Good people.

Chance: Yeah, the best. Craziest part is my family was told that I was dead. My wife, abby, she — she didn’t believe it. So she came looking for me, and she found me, she brought me back, and…yeah.

Dr. Huffman: Your family must have felt like it was a miracle you survived.

Chance: It was the answer to their prayers, right? Keep saying how lucky I am, that I’m a hero.

Dr. Huffman: And you don’t agree?

Chance: No, that didn’t sit well with me.

Dr. Huffman: [ Sighs ] Tell me, how often do you replay that day in your mind?

Chance: Every day.

Dr. Huffman: Mm.

Chance: I mean, it’s to the point where I hear a car backfire and I’m back. I catch a certain smell, if the sky is a certain shade of blue, I’m back. I just can’t escape it.

Dr. Huffman: Do you dream about it?

Chance: Mm-hmm. I thought that would stop over time, but it didn’T. Um…I usually just see faces.

Dr. Huffman: Mm-hmm.

Chance: Like my team. I can see their face. They talk to me, and, you know, they ask me things. It’s like this torture that i can’t escape.

Dr. Huffman: Do you think you’re being punished?

Chance: Yeah.

Dr. Huffman: For what?

Chance: Failure. I failed my team.

Sally: Tell me this is some horrible joke. There is no way that victoria and ashland’s honeymoon is already over, after that incredible wedding in tuscany. They were so in love.

Adam: You know, things aren’t always as they appear, especially when it comes to locke.

Sally: If you tell me that he’s been cheating on her, i will never forgive him.

Adam: Wow, I didn’t realize that you were so invested in their relationship.

Sally: Well, I wouldn’t necessarily say that, but, i mean, I can’t help but feel for your sister. Her wedding made international news, partly because of the unforgettable dress I designed.

Adam: Okay, I guess you do have a big of a stake in this.

Sally: If she and locke split after a matter of months, she’s not only gonna be heartbroken, but she’s going to be humiliated. I know that you two aren’t the closest of siblings, but you have to at least be somewhat sympathetic to her plight. Right?

Victor: Which line do you think I’ve crossed?

Victoria: You upset and you insulted my husband. Acting like we’re doing him some favor by allowing him to help us run this company that he half owns! He is a brilliant businessman. He has connections all over the globe. He is feared and respected by top corporate leaders. Explain to me why would I keep an asset like him on the sideline.

Victor: Well, I mean, i wouldn’t mind if he gave you some advice every so often, but why give him all this authority?

Victoria: It is so frustrating for him to work this way. He feels like he’s got one hand tied behind his back.

Victor: Mm.

Victoria: You know, it was one thing when he was ill and he could only handle a supporting role.

Victor: Well, maybe he just had a relapse, you know? Perhaps he’s not as well as he wants us to believe he is.

Victoria: He is reacting to the pressure that you’re putting on him, and I do not believe for one moment that your objection has anything to do with ashland’s health. It’s all about control for you. That’s the way that it’s always been. You’re the king-maker. It’s all about you. You can’t stand the fact that I’m making the decisions. Why can you not just learn, daddy, to trust my judgment? I’m in this place because i deserve to be here, so let me do my job in my company the way that I see fit.

[ Sighs ] What are you doing here?

Nick: I just came to see how you’re doing.

Victoria: Right, innocent visit. You just happen to be in the neighborhood. You’re here because you knew exactly what dad was up to. Don’t deny it, nicholas. I can see it all over your face. So how long have you known about this? Has the entire family been discussing this behind my back?

Abby: Hey.

Chance: Hey.

Abby: How’d it go?

Chance: It went.

Abby: Did you like your therapist?

Chance: Yeah. Yeah, he was cool. Seems to know what he’s talking about, so that’s a good sign.

Abby: Did you guys get into any of the tough stuff? You know what? It’s none of my business. I just — I worry.

Chance: I know. And you know me — if I’m gonna do something, I’m gonna do it. But, damn, is it hard. I’m exhausted. There’s a lot of work to do. Not gonna be any quick fixes.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Chance: What? No, no, come out with it. If I can’t hold back, neither can you. Come on.

Abby: Look, I know that you think you have to be perfect and that there are a lot of broken pieces that need to be put back together, but I love you. Always. No matter what. And we are gonna get through this together. I’m just so proud of you for facing this head on.

Adam: Of course I feel bad for victoria. Wasn’t that long ago that I got my heart broken by someone i loved and trusted. Wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.

Sally: Then why are you so calm about this?

Adam: Because she’s a survivor, just like the rest of the newmans. And the family will rally around her. That is what I was talking to nick and my dad about.

Sally: This must be a huge disappointment for victor. I know he was counting on victoria and ashland to run his empire, but if ashland gets kicked to the curb, victoria — bare minimum — is gonna be distracted if not devastated. She could lose focus and question her decisions. Newman/locke could suffer. But who would be in charge?

Adam: $10 billion question.

Ashland: Just…listen to me. You need to find everyone who’s talking to michael baldwin and put an end to it immediately. And forever. Do we understand each other?

Victoria: How old do I have to be? And what is it that I must do to live my life without constant interference from our father?

Nick: Just get out of the business, vick. The closer you are to the fire, the worse you get burned.

Victoria: He has been going behind my back and spying on me. It’s intolerable. And apparently you knew all about it, because why else would you be here?

Nick: Don’t lump me in with all this, alright? I had nothing to do with it. Dad just filled me in a little while ago.

Victoria: If I find out that you’re lying to me…

Nick: Everything I’m telling you is true. I learned a long time ago to stop involving myself in your life. I didn’t even know dad was gonna tell you about it.

Victoria: Wait a minute. Tell me what?

Nick: I don’t want victoria to get hurt anymore than you do, but what ashland has done is unforgivable and he must be dealt with now.

Adam: I agree with you. But I also agree with dad that we cannot afford to make any wrong moves or do anything reckless. We have to handle this smart.

Victor: Boys…I’ve got this. Leave it to me.

Nick: If you think you can take care of ashland discreetly, you are kidding yourself. There is no way to handle it without it blowing up in victoria’s face.

Victor: I will minimize damage to her as much as possible.

Nick: How are you gonna do that?

Victor: By dealing with that bastard one-on-one.

Nick: If you’re not gonna tell us what’s going on, why are we here?

Victor: You know exactly what that man has done to victoria, your sister. Who knows what else he has up his sleeve?

Nikki: I thought you were going to go meet with your father.

Victoria: Well, I don’t have to go right this instant, do I?

Nikki: Installing ashland as your co-ceo is a big deal. Even if you think it’s the right thing to do, victor needs to know about it as soon as possible.

[ Knock on door ]

Ashland: Hey, darling, I was wondering if I could get your opinion — oh.

Nikki: Hello, ashland.

Ashland: Hello, nikki. Everything okay?

Nikki: Yeah, yeah, I’m just having a conversation with my daughter.

Ashland: Oh, I’m interrupting. I’m sorry.

Victoria: No, you’re not interrupting at all. No. I don’t keep things from my husband, mother. We’re partners in every way. Apparently, my mom’s concerned about how my dad is gonna take the news of your new title.

Ashland: Ah. I’m hoping he will be supportive.

Nikki: I’m sure that you are.

Ashland: But you have your doubts.

Nikki: It’s a big change. This company will always be victor’s legacy, and it means a great deal to him that it’s being run by his eldest child.

Ashland: And it still will be. Changing my title will in no way diminish victoria’s position.

Victoria: I don’t need his permission. Telling him is just — it’s a courtesy, it’s a formality. But mom’s right, we should probably just get it over with.

Ashland: I agree. We should tell victor as soon as possible, but — but unfortunately, we have a meeting in just a few minutes with the marketing staff, so…

Victoria: Oh, that’s right. I forgot.

Nikki: I can cover the marketing meeting.

Victoria: Oh, thank you, mom. You know what? I would feel better once we deliver the news.

Ashland: Fantastic. Oh, and since nikki is taking over the meeting, that frees up my time so we can go meet with victor together. And together, we can present a truly united front.

If they don’t make up their minds soon about the ceremony and the reception and all the little details that go into it, I’m worried this wedding might not happen.

Mariah: What? How did you figure out what was wrong? It already happened? Uh…okay, is there anything I can do? Should I — should I come over? Yeah. No, no, I understand. It’s okay. Um… I’ll talk to you later. Yeah, alright, bye.

Tessa: What’s wrong?

Mariah: Apparently nothing, not now. But dominic had to get a bone marrow transfusion.

Tessa: Oh, my god. Do you know — do you know what’s wrong with him?

Mariah: He had some sort of blood disease.

Tessa: Is he gonna be okay?

Mariah: Yeah, he’s doing great, and they think he’s gonna make a full recovery.

Tessa: Oh, well, that’s a relief.

Mariah: Yeah, the doctors tested abby and devon, and devon was a perfect match.

Tessa: Wow. So first he takes on an expanded role in the little boy’s life, and now he’s helping him heal. I mean, I know it’s just a matter of biology, but seems like a sign to me.

Mariah: I am really happy that he could be there for him.

Tessa: Um, you don’t sound too happy about that.

Mariah: No, I — of course I’m — I’m thrilled that dominic is gonna be okay. But I just can’t understand why they wouldn’t tell me what was going on. I know that I’ve taken a step back, but I’m still his godmother. Why wouldn’t they tell me about something so important?

Nick: Alright, as much as i want to hurt this guy, I agree with you. We got to be smart about how we retaliate. So what’s the plan, dad? I want to know what it is and what’s involved.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Victor: It’s victoria.

Nick: What are you gonna say to her?

Victor: Hi, sweetheart, I’m so glad you called. (Jackie) I’ve made progress with my mental health.

Rey: Don’t you worry, mariah and tessa’s wedding’s gonna come together because it’s meant to be. Everything’s gonna come together — all the little details. And don’t forget, there’s always a little magic involved with these things, huh?

Sharon: You know, you’re right. I’m trying not to be that person who checks in every second, but I just — I want to help them if I can.

Rey: I know, I know, and I’m sure mariah knows, too.

Sharon: Yeah, she does, and i know that she will come to me and ask for help if she wants it, and I’m definitely respecting that.

Rey: Oh. You know, I love that you’re so psyched about planning your daughter’s wedding. But I also love that you understand that mariah and tessa need to choose whatever kind of wedding feels right to them, not the rest of the world, no matter how quirky or off-beat or deep underwater it may seem.

Mariah: I just can’t help but being bothered by abby and devon choosing not to tell me about dominic’s illness until after the fact.

Tessa: I assume that they have an explanation for that.

Mariah: Yeah, I mean, abby said that she didn’t even tell the family, ’cause she didn’t want to worry people unnecessarily.

Tessa: I can understand that. And everything turned out okay. That’s the most important part, right?

Mariah: Of course. I’m ecstatic that dominic is alright. And it’s true, I mean, i would’ve freaked out and been worried senseless, so I guess they spared me that.

Tessa: Hey, of course. But we’re gonna go visit him the second that we can. And I’m sure one big healthy, happy smile from him will cheer us both up.

Mariah: You’re right. I can’t wait to see that grin.

[ Chuckles ]

Tessa: Oh, me too. I do have something that might take your mind off the little guy. I really took noah’s suggestion to heart during our last brain-storming session about the wedding, and I think that we should try and combine our top three ideas and make our own hybrid version of our perfect wedding day.

Victoria: Hi, dad. I’m calling because there’s something that ashland and i need to speak with you about as soon as possible.

Victor: Well, now, as luck would have it, my darling, I’m at newman media in adam’s office. Why don’t you come over?

Victoria: I’ll see you in a few minutes.

Victor: Okay.

Adam: What’s your next move? Since apparently this is happening right here and now.

Nick: You know what, dad? Just call me when you need me.

Victoria: Dad’s in adam’s office, and he can see us now.

Ashland: Fantastic. Let’s go meet with victor.

[ Cellphone chimes ] Oh. Hang on. Uh…

Nikki: Something wrong?

Victor: So there isn’t much time left, son. Nicholas is gone. Would you support me?

I may have moderate to

severe rheumatoid arthritis.

Ashland: No, no, nothing’s wrong at all, nikki. It was — it’s a small personnel issue. It doesn’t at all rise to the level of — of what we’re about to do, so…

Nikki: Ah. I must have misread the expression on your face when you read that text.

Ashland: Really? Oh, it was just a — it was a former locke communications group executive that we had to let go because of the merger. He wants to have, you know, “a call,” and, uh… well, you know, now that I think about it, he probably deserves one. Why don’t you go on ahead, and I’ll catch up with you?

Victoria: Sure, I’ll see you soon.

Ashland: Okay.

We’re gonna have to reciprocate for mariah’S.

Sharon: Yes.

Rey: And we cannot forget the best man.

Nick: What?

Rey: Well, we were talking about wedding toasts with mariah and tessa’s wedding coming up.

Nick: Oh, yeah, right.

Sharon: Is something wrong? What happened?

Nick: [ Sighs ] I don’t want to talk about it.

Rey: You know, I — yeah, i got to check in with the station.

Sharon: You seem angry. What’s going on?

Nick: I don’t know what’s best, you know, talking about it or just bottling it up inside.

Sharon: Nick, you can talk to me. You know you can trust me with anything.

Nick: Alright, it’s ashland. He has done something so despicable this time — I mean, the worst thing of his life, and considering who he is and what he’s done, that’s saying a lot. But this time, it could destroy victoria, and I don’t know how to help her.

Victoria: I have some news, dad. Adam.

Victor: Ashland. I’m done playing games with you. Okay? It ends now.

Ashland: Uh…what ends now?

Victor: The charade is over.

Nick: So dad had michael go down to peru and check out that clinic where ashland received his miracle cure.

Sharon: Look, I know you’ve never been a fan of locke, but what was so suspicious about him previously making those donations to that facility?

Nick: You always want to believe the best in everyone, but this time dad’s instincts were right. Michael went down there and got a couple of the doctors who worked there at the clinic to go on record saying that ashland bribed them to make it seem like he was really suffering from his cancer and that the treatment they gave him sent him into remission. But in reality, he was never sick at all.

Sharon: Ashland faked his cancer? I can’t even wrap my head around that.

Nick: And vick has no idea that she’s being lied to about this seriously huge thing. And, I mean, ashland just used her to get his hands on the company.

Sharon: Wow, I don’t know what to say.

Nick: Don’t say anything, sharon, alright? This has to stay between us. I came to you because I needed somebody to talk to about it.

Sharon: Of course, I’m not gonna tell anyone about this. Why haven’t you told victoria? Don’t you think this is something she should know, like, right now?

Nick: Because dad said he’s got some plan, some way to deal with this where victoria suffers the least amount possible.

Sharon: Well, I’m sure he has her best interests at heart, but to keep something like this from her, something this big? That’s risky.

Nick: The last time I went to her and told her about all the horrible things that ashland has done, she was okay with it. Why would this time be any different?

Sharon: I don’t think you’re giving your sister enough credit. If what you’re saying is true, what ashland did is disgusting. It’s unforgivable. He has destroyed every ounce of trust that victoria had in him, and as a cancer survivor, I am appalled that he would use that as a selfish ploy. There’s no way in hell that victoria will be alright with that.

Adam: Really great to see you, sis. You seem like you’re in a good mood today. So to what do I owe this pleasure?

Victoria: Where did dad go? What is he doing?

Adam: I don’t know. Could be any number of things. But he said he’d be right back.

Victoria: I don’t understand why he would just leave when i said I had something important to discuss with him.

Adam: Well, hey, maybe you could bounce your ideas off of me first.

Victoria: No, thank you.

Adam: Why not? Now that I’m working with you —

Victoria: You work for me.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Yes. You are my boss, and that’s the point. We are on the same team, and i want the company — our company — to succeed, and i would be happy to give you my insights.

Victoria: This is too high level for you to weigh in on, so just have dad call me when he gets back.

Adam: Hey, hey, as long as you’re here, I’d love to get some thoughts on some potential areas of expansion for newman media.

Ashland: Locking the door is a little dramatic, don’t you think, victor? I mean, I’m not exactly sure what’s happening right now. What exactly is the charade you’re accusing me of perpetrating?

Victor: Ashland. You don’t have cancer. You never did.

Ashland: I’m sorry, is this some kind of a joke? No? Okay, uh, well, talk to my doctors, and they will tell you my cancer is real.

Victor: The doctors you paid off? Or the ones that you supplied with falsified medical records?

Ashland: That’s a hell of an accusation. Why would I even attempt such a thing? I mean, what would be the goal?

Victor: Power. Control. You have dreamt of combining or merging newman enterprises with locke communications to create a behemoth of a company that you would preside over, rule.

Ashland: Okay, that’s crazy.

Victor: Uh-huh.

Ashland: Uh…besides, victoria is the one who’s been driving the merger.

Victor: You put the idea of the merger in her head. It worked. Because she thought you only had a few months left to live. You managed to make her feel sorry for you. A man just about to die of cancer, my goodness. Who wouldn’t be moved by that? You played that game masterfully. But now it’s over. I just heard something amazing!

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Mariah: I’m not sure what combining our top three ideas would even look like.

Tessa: Okay, well, I’m thinking that it would involve art, music, and perhaps costumes.

Mariah: Alright, where are we gonna do it?

Tessa: Okay, well, a destination wedding is seeming too complicated, so let’s keep it local, and we’ll surround ourselves with art that we love from chicago museums and then we’ll get one of our favorite bands to play.

Mariah: Okay, what about the murder mystery them? ‘Cause we talked about that before.

Tessa: It seems a little dark for a celebration.

Mariah: Okay. But, you know, we got to have something that sets this apart from a typical ceremony. I mean, everybody has music and decorations.

Tessa: Maybe we pick a time period from our favorite mystery and dress in that style. Like — ooh, ooh, like london in the ’60s. It’ll be mod influenced. Oh, you hate it.

Mariah: No, no.

Tessa: Mm, you think it’s too complicated.

Mariah: [ Stammers ] That’s not exactly what I think.

Tessa: Okay, so — so what are you thinking?

Mariah: I’m thinking that we don’t quite have it yet. But I know that eventually it’s just gonna come to us, and then we are going to have the best wedding ever.

Tessa: [ Sighs ]

Nick: Believe me, I’m as bothered by this as you are.

Sharon: Noah. You look like you just rolled out of bed and in the coffee house.

Noah: Do I?

Nick: Late night?

Sharon: Oh, I can answer that because I heard him roll in just after dawn. I mean, I’m really glad that i realized you had started staying at our house again after that stint at your dad’s or I might have thought we had a prowler.

Noah: That would have been bad. Yeah. Sorry, I promise I was trying my best to be quiet.

Sharon: No, you were! Until you knocked over that lamp.

Noah: Okay, I see where this is going, and to answer your question, no, I was not drinking. I’m just clumsy. I was catching up with some girl I met back in high school, and i lost track of time.

Sharon: Oh, was this a romantic kind of evening?

Nick: Whoa, whoa. You don’t have to talk about that. That is none of our business.

Noah: She’s just a friend, but I got to admit, it was nice staying up all night talking, blowing off some steam.

Nick: And you are a grown man. You can stay out as late as you want.

Sharon: Indeed.

Noah: Okay, good to know. Thank you.

Nick: I do, however, prefer a well-rested employee.

Noah: [ Sighs ] You see, this is the problem with working for your dad and living with your mom.

Nick: I didn’t say it was an issue.

Sharon: And we love having you stay at the house.

Noah: Alright, guys, i promise I’m on top of everything over at new hope, and I will get a good night’s sleep tonight. Okay? Now, please, stop worrying about me so much, really. Come on.

Ashland: Victor, think about what you’re saying. It doesn’t — it’s not rational. It’s nothing more than an outrageous conjecture. Now, first of all, you know how publicly humiliated I was when my illness was splattered all over the press.

Victor: Hmm. You probably leaked that story yourself, didn’t you?

Ashland: And what about harrison? Are you suggesting I purposely walked away from him, that I — that I told him I was dying when I wasn’t? Why would I do that to my own son?

Victor: Turns out he isn’t even your son.

Ashland: You have crossed over a line right there.

[ Chuckles ] I mean, your daughter told me you could be cold and cruel.

Victor: I can be very cold and very cruel. Stop the bull. I know what you’ve done.

Ashland: Okay. What have I done?

Victor: I have evidence that you paid off the doctors at that clinic in peru, where they have this miraculous cure for cancer. You paid them off to falsify your records. Now, I have people in peru right now gathering more information about your shenanigans down there. You’re done.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ] Victor, I have enemies all over the world, and you know something? So do you. Now, whoever’s feeding you these lies clearly has a score to settle with me. Doesn’t this feel like a set-up? Hmm?

Victor: You stop your nonsense. What you’ve done to my company, what you’ve done to my family, what you have done to my daughter, my wife, and my grandchildren. No one uses my family as a pawn in their dreadful game. You got that? Now, you listen to me carefully. Under no circumstances will you let my daughter victoria feel that she was subject and victim of a hoax, a cruel hoax. I’d rather have her heart broken than her spirit broken by the likes of you. And I will tell you what you’re gonna do.

Adam: Well, after we get through the initial necessary streamlining due to the merger, we’re gonna obviously focus on growth and ways to expand the content and…monetize it.

Victoria: That’s called business, adam, and I really don’t have time to sit here and listen to the specifics.

Adam: Okay. Well, let me run another idea by you about the news division. You know, if we were to incorporate all those brands under our roof, we’d have something for every demographic, and I think that —

Victoria: You know, that’s over-ambitious and unfocused. Why don’t you run your ideas by your brilliant new coo, or is sally too busy designing a business suit so that she can look the part?

Adam: Sally is more than capable of designing her own wardrobe. She is busy working on the budget at the moment.

Victoria: Can’t wait to crunch those numbers.

Adam: Victoria, why don’t you just calm down the condescension for a bit, okay? I know that you met with sally and she had some pretty impressive ideas that not even you could shoot down.

Victoria: Oh, really? Is that how she characterized our run-in? I mean, I did point out to her that she is very, very confident in herself. But maybe that’s because apparently she’s sleeping with the boss.

Adam: That’s a low blow, even for you.

Victoria: Oh, but it’s true, right?

Adam: I’m not gonna dignify that with a response. But need I remind you that you share your sheets with your chief advisor.

Victoria: Ashland and I are married. And ashland is much more than an advisor, as you will soon find out.

Adam: What does that mean?

Victoria: Let’s get a few things straight, shall we? You need to give ashland the respect that he has earned.

Adam: Is that so?

Victoria: And I’m really not gonna put up with you running off to daddy every time you get your feelings hurt. I don’t know, maybe you have delusion that you’re gonna run the entire company again, but if that’s what’s going on here, i would get rid of that pipe dream if I were you, because ashland and I, we’re running the show.

Adam: You sound awfully confident in yourself.

Victoria: That’s because i am. What ashland and I have is very special.

Adam: Ah.

Victoria: Yeah.

Adam: Yeah. That’s one word for it. Goal!

Mariah: Now, I do think i want our wedding to be interactive in some way. Like, maybe we can give people, uh…a role or, like, a job or something. Or do you think that people would not be able to relax and enjoy themselves? But, like, I don’t know, maybe it would make them appreciate the day more and… what? What is it?

Tessa: I think you should stop talking.

Mariah: You think that I’m way overthinking this.

Tessa: Only in a way that makes me love you more.

Mariah: [ Chuckles ] We just have to trust that whatever we do, it’s gonna be spectacular.

Tessa: Because it will be.

Mariah: How can you be so sure?

Tessa: I remember all of our false starts, all the times we got in our own way. I take most of the blame for that, by the way.

Mariah: No, you shouldn’T. I was responsible for some of our breakups.

[ Chuckles ]

Tessa: But we always found our way back because I believe that we’re destined to be together, but I also know how hard we fought to be with one another. So I’m just grateful that we got to this point. We are lucky. Beyond lucky. So, as much as I want our wedding day to honor our guests, I really want it to just be about how much we love each other.

Mariah: I agree with you 100%. And I feel like you accidentally just wrote a song without even realizing it. I want to remember everything that you just said forever. And I think you might’ve stumbled onto a title without knowing it. “Beyond lucky.”

Tessa: Hmm.

Sharon: We will try to stop worrying about you, but, as parents, that’s a pretty hard habit to break.

Nick: It’s nearly impossible, but we’re gonna work on it.

Noah: Alright, well, that’s all I can ask for. You know, now that I think about it, though, you two looked pretty intense when I first walked in here. Maybe I should be worried about you.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Um…no, I was just, you know, telling your mother about some of the aggravations that come with being a newman. I’m sure you can understand that.

Noah: It definitely has its pros and cons. Is there I should know about or —

Nick: No, it’s nothing that you need to concern yourself with.

Noah: Alright. Is it cool if I grab a cup of coffee?

Sharon: Sure, go ahead.

Noah: Oh, and don’t worry, I’ll be very, very careful not to spill on myself, so…

Nick: [ Scoffs ]

Sharon: I guess we have been a little fixated on noah’s state of mind lately.

Nick: Yeah. We don’t need to be. He’s in a good place.

Sharon: I’m actually more worried about you right now. I know that you won’t sit back and do nothing if victoria needs your help.

Nick: Am I that predictable?

Sharon: In a good way. I can tell you’re itching to do something.

Nick: Yeah, I got to do something. And I’m gonna do it right now.

Victor: Your cancer will suddenly reappear. You’ll have a relapse, necessitating you to go down to south america, to peru. And you go alone, without victoria. And when I deem the time is right, you will call my daughter and you will tell her that you want a divorce. No long legal wrangling, no court scenes. Nothing. Clean divorce. No explanation, no argument. That’s what you will do. And then you will revert control of newman/locke back to my daughter as part of the settlement. And then, my friend, you will disappear from my daughter’s life forever.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] Why…would I ever…walk away from the woman I love?

Victoria: Why are you looking at me like a smug jerk?

Adam: It’s my resting face. But I am sincerely curious — what is it about your relationship with ashland that works so well? You know, what’s the secret? Please share your wisdom.

Victoria: I would love to. But I have much better things to do with my time, and since it doesn’t seem dad is coming back here any time soon, I have work to do.

Adam: Actually, there was one more thing that I wanted to talk with you about.

Victoria: Adam, I’ve given you enough of my time for the day.

Adam: You do realize that we’re gonna have to communicate on a regular basis in our current positions, right?

Victoria: Well, we’ll see about that. I have given you a fair amount of autonomy at newman media, at least for now. So let’s see what you can do, you know? Show me what you got, run with it. Put those nay-sayers to rest. And let’s see if, left to your own devices, you’ll succeed, or maybe you’re gonna fail.

Adam: Well, it’s the former, and I am more than happy to prove it to you.

[ Cellphone rings ] Hold on. It’s sally. She can wait.

Victoria: No, please, don’t blow off your invaluable second-in-command on my behalf. Maybe you can share the rest of your brilliant ideas with her.

Adam: But we’re not done here, victoria.

Victoria: Yes, we are. Your dry skin story changes

Rey: Hey. Sorry, I had to run to the station. What’d I miss?

Nick: Oh, just my parents freaking out ’cause I got home late last night. Apparently, they are not used to me having a social life anymore.

Mariah: Alright, everyone, gather around, because we have an announcement.

Sharon: They have an

announcement we’re all here.

Rey: Especially your mom.

Sharon: Oh.

Mariah: Okay, so we have thought about this long and hard. We’ve come at it from every angle.

Tessa: Explored every option and then some.

Mariah: And we really appreciate your guys’ suggestions because they helped a lot, and we realized the specific ways that we love each other and how we want to express that.

Tessa: So this is an announcement that an announcement about our wedding is impending.

Rey: Oh, so this is like the save-the-date thing that comes before the actual invitation, expect it’s about your wedding theme, right?

Mariah: Well, sounds less impressive when you put it like that, but sure.

Sharon: Can I start acting like I’m the mother of the bride now?

Mariah: Yes, yes, you can. And we need your input and expertise.

Rey: Well, I pitch in in whatever way I can. You know, maybe you need some security in case one of tessa’s fans decides to crash the wedding.

[ Laughter ]

Noah: And if you need any artwork or design, I got it covered.

Mariah: Thank you guys so much for your love and for your support.

Tessa: It means the world to us.

Sharon: We’re just so happy for you.

Noah: We all want this to be perfect. A day you’ll never forget.

Tessa: [ Chuckles ]

Adam: I wasn’t expecting to see you back here today.

Nick: I changed my mind about wanting to be involved. What’s going down with ashland and victoria?

Adam: Honestly, I don’t have much to share. Dad had me keep victoria busy while he confronted locke. So I did my best, but she got fed up with me pretty quick, threw a bunch of insults my way. It was pretty hard to bite my tongue when it would’ve been easy to throw her husband’s lies in her face.

Nick: But you didn’t do that. You respected dad’s wishes.

Adam: I restrained myself.

Nick: Where are dad and victoria now?

Adam: I’m not sure. But I think a collision course is inevitable. In fact, the fireworks you mentioned might be detonating right now.

Victor: Don’t insult my intelligence, okay? There’s no genuine love in this relationship. Certainly not on your part. You’ve used my daughter as a pawn, as a means to an end.

Ashland: You’re wrong.

Victor: Really?

Ashland: I love victoria more than I have ever loved anyone in my entire life. And she loves me. Now, if I were to fly to peru, if I were to file for divorce out of nowhere, what do you think she would do? Victor, what do you think the powerful, strong-willed daughter you raised would do? You think she would just sit back and accept it? That’s not going to happen.

Victoria: Ashland?

Recap written by Christine

In the hallway of Newman Locke, Victoria asked Nick what Victor was supposed to be saying to her. Nick was confused. “Dad talked to you. You already know,” he said. Victoria was gettinfg upset because she thought Nick was lying to her. She said she’d always been able to count on him to be honest with her, even if they were disagreeing. She asked what was going on. He wouldn’t respond, so she went back into the office to confront their parents. Nick joined her. Victoria accused everyone in the room of conspiring about her behind her back. “Please tell me what’s going on,” she said. Victor said that Victoria already knew what was going on – he asked her and Ashland to hold off on signing the paper making him a co-CEO until they knew how Ashland’s health was doing. Victoria knew all that, but she also knew everyone was keeping something from her.

Nicholas assumed that dad had told me something, but when I asked what that something might be, he wasn’t very forthcoming,” Victoria said. “I was just trying too…” Nick started. Victoria replied that she thought he was trying to cover something up. She asked Victor what was going on, given that he seemed to be spying on her and Ashland. Victor said he didn’t need to spy – his name was on the building. Nick pretended that he’d just wanted to ask Victoria about signing the co-CEO contract. She told Nick that he didn’t work here, so he had no business knowing about that. He said that, as her brother, he cared about things that affected her. Nikki said Nick was looking out for Victoria. Victor said he cared too, and he didn’t think Ashland should become co-CEO. Victor said that Victoria had done a damn good job running the company by herself. Victoria knew something else was going on here, but she decided to go check on her husband. “Stay out of my business and leave me and Ashland alone!,” she spat, then she left.

Nick digested the news that Victoria wanted to make Ashland co-CEO. Victor said it was Ashland’s idea – Ashland was inching closer to wanting to take over the company. Nikki was still giving Ashland the benefit of the doubt, and Nick didn’t think she should. Nikki thought there might be more to the story than they knew, but she admitted things weren’t looking good for Ashland. Which was why she’d advised Victoria not to sign the contract. Victor wasn’t going to tell Victoria that Ashland faked his cancer, unless he had no choice. Nick wasn’t comfortable hiding things from Victoria while Victor figured out how to deal with Ashland. Nick said Victoria was furious with them. Victor said that was too bad – it beat the alternative of Ashland taking over the family business. This was why Nick had wanted to stay out of this, but now he couldn’t because he couldn’t turn his back on Victoria, and he had to make sure Ashland paid. Victor said he’d take care of everything. Nick hoped so. He left.

Nikki thought Nick was right to be concerned. She said when Victor confronted Ashland, he didn’t even blink or show any remorse. Victor said Ashland would be gone soon enough. Nikki said Ashland was trapped in a corner, and that was when men like that were dangerous. Nikki said Ashland wouldn’t back down from a fight, the same as Victor. She worried that Victor didn’t have as much of a handle on the situation as he thought he did. Victor said that if Ashland tried anything, Victor would show him no mercy.

Ashland finished his drink and was leaving Society when Nate walked in. Nate had been thinking about Ashland’s job offer, and though they’d need to discuss terms before he could make a decision, he was leaning toward accepting it. Ashland was friendly, but he kind of blew Nate off and kept walking. Nate asked what was going on. Ashland apologized and said not to read anything into his mood. Ashland was late for a meeting, but he wanted to have a discussion with Nate later, maybe over dinner. Concerned, Nate said Ashland seemed frazzled, and he didn’t look well. Ashland said he was fine. Nate said he didn’t mean to pry. Ashland said that his old symptoms had returned, and he was feeling a little nervous.

Nate and Ashland sat down at the bar and Nate asked Ashland about his symptoms. Ashland said that he felt fatigued or had trouble breathing a couple times a week, but it was manageable. It might just be a bug. Nate said that Ashland needed to see his oncologist. Ashland said that was the appointment he’d been on his way to when Nate stopped him. Nate offered to accompany Ashland, for support. Ashland appreciated the offer, but he declined and said he’d call Nate afterward and tell him what the doctor said. Ashland got a text from Victoria saying to call her. She mentioned she was at Crimson Lights. After Ashland left, Nikki and Victor ran into Nate at Society. they started talking about Nate possibly coming to work for Newman Locke. Victor and Nikki’s interest was piqued when Nate mentioned that he just saw Ashland. Nikki asked if Ashland’s health seemed okay. Nate remembered Victor asking about Ashland’s health the last time they talked. Victor said Ashland was family, and they were concerned because the last time they saw him, he had a hard time breathing.

Nate didn’t want to disclose medical information. Victor said he wasn’t asking for test results, just asking if Ashland seemed healthy. Nate admitted Ashland seemed under the weather, but that could be stress or a common cold. Nate left. Victor asked what Nikki thought. Nikki wasn’t ready to condemn Ashland for going to Society when he was supposedly sick. She suggested that he’d come to get some takeout on the way home. “Maybe he wasn’t acting acting at all. Maybe he just isn’t feeling well,” she said. Victor didn’t buy it. Nikki was still struggling with the idea that Ashland lied about his health. Victor knew Nikki didn’t want to believe Ashland had deceived Victoria. Nikki suggested that the doctors lied to Michael and said what they thought Victor wanted to hear in hopes of a big payout. Victor trusted Michael. Nikki thought they needed to be certain before Victor did anything.

At Crimson Lights, Victoria called Ashland. She said she went home to check on him, and he wasn’t there. She was worried. Sharon overheard the call. As Sharon got Victoria’s drink, Victoria asked if Ashland had stopped in. She explained that he’d been feeling sick, and now she didn’t know where he was. Sharon said if she saw Ashland, she’d tell him Victoria was looking for him. Nick showed up and asked Victoria to talk. She was on her way out, but agreed to give him a minute. He didn’t like how they left things at the office. They rehashed the conversation from earlier. He said things hadn’t been the same between them since the wedding, and he hated that. He didn’t want her to shut him out.

Victoria didn’t want to lose the progress she and Nick made, but after today, it was hard for her to believe he was on her side. She knew he didn’t like or respect Ashland. He said he was trying, and she said that was all she wanted. Ashland came in and overheard Victoria say she wanted her family to accept Ashland and stop trying to undermine her happiness. Ashland walked up and put his arm around Victoria. Ashland said he and Victoria wanted Nick to see that Ashland loved and cared about Victoria and would do anything to make her happy. Ashland said there was no need to worry about Victoria where he was concerned, and she didn’t need protecting. Nick said that was good to know. Ashland thought it’d help if Victoria knew Nick was on her side. Nick said he always was. Victoria wanted to believe that. Ashland wanted Victoria to have anything her heart desired. He asked if they could all just work together. Sharon walked up and told Nick that she needed to talk to him about Mariah and Tessa. She took him out to the patio.

Nick asked what was going on with Mariah and Tessa. Sharon just said that to get Nick away from Ashland. Sharon knew Nick well enough to know he was a split second from doing something he’d regret. Nick admitted he was two minutes from losing it on Ashland and confronting him. It would’ve been disastrous because Ashland would’ve denied everything and Victoria would’ve sided with him. Nick said he went to see Victoria earlier and accidentally created a minefield. He said his dad had a plan to get Ashland out of their lives without Victoria ever knowing the truth. He appreciated Sharon pulling him away from Ashland, and he was glad she was always there for him. She said anytime.

Ashland hoped they got through to Nick. Victoria was more concerned about Ashland’s health. She thought he should be home in bed. He was feeling better. She hoped her father’s interference didn’t’ contribute to how he was feeling. He said it was a momentary thing, and he was fine. She was planning to move ahead with their agreement. She asked if he signed the contract. He said not yet. He got a text. “Found another doctor who gave info to Baldwin. Took care of all three of them” it said. Ashland told Victoria that there was something he needed to tell her about Victor.

Phyllis and Jack went to the house in LA that he’d learned about through the mysterious texts. “This is Keemo’s house,” Jack said. He felt nervous, because he didn’t know who or what was at the other side of the door. He knocked and nobody answered, so he was going to leave, but she tried the door, and it was unlocked. They debated whether or not it’d be okay to just walk in. Phyllis figured that the texter left the door unlocked on purpose for Jack. He didn’t agree. Phyllis reasoned that since Keemo’s obituary didn’t mention a wife, Jack was probably next of kin, so he had a right to go into the house. Jack noted that the obituary didn’t mention Keemo’s half-sister either. The half sister had been out of the country for decades. Entering the house didn’t feel right to Jack, but Phyllis said they didn’t come all this way to leave without answers. She opened the door, and he hesitantly went inside and called out asking if anyone was home. Most of Keemo’s personal effects had been moved out, and the furniture was covered, so the walls could be repainted. Jack wondered who packed up the house. He hoped Keemo had someone close in his life.

Jack wondered why someone wanted him to come to this empty house. He felt like he was trespassing. “I feel like Keemo wouldn’t want me here,” he said. Phyllis suggested that Jack see this as a way to reconnect with his son. Jack said Keemo died not wanting anything to do with him. Phyllis told Jack she was here for him, but she wasn’t going to let him second-guess himself. She told him that he chose not to blow off the texts. She thought that this was a way to reconnect with his son. He thought it was too late, but she believed he could at least find out who Keemo became. She added that they could find out who was sending him the texts. He did want to know who the texter was, and he wanted to find out something about Keemo’s life. He wanted to know Keemo built a happy life, even if Jack wasn’t included in it.

They checked the house, and it was all as empty as the living room. Jack wondered if this living room was the place Keemo spent the most of his time – did he enjoy the sunrise here? Sit on this couch and read? It was hard trying to piece together the life of someone you didn’t know well, but who was very important to you. Jack went through a box and found a stack of envelopes addressed to him. Letters written by Keemo, but never sent. Phyllis noted that this was the only box in the house, so it was clear that it was left here for Jack. She was going to leave Jack alone with the letters, but he asked her to stay. Jack noted that Keemo signed all his letters with his birth name, Keemo, not Hao.

In the letters, Keemo was clearly working through his feelings about Jack. Jack didn’t know if Keemo ever planned to mail them or if writing them was a therapeutic exercise. In one letter, Keemo said he tried to let his anger with Jack go, but after he left Genoa City, something inside him wouldn’t be at peace. In another, Keemo apologized for the angry emails he’d sent Jack. Keemo explained that he’d been angry about all the time he’d lost with his mother, because he didn’t know she was dying. Jack said Laun didn’t want anyone to know she was ill. “She didn’t tell me. I found out by accident. Kept it to myself,” Jack told Phyllis. Phyllis said it must’ve been difficult for Jack to keep that from everyone, including Luan. Jack didn’t say anything to Keemo, because he thought he was honoring Luan’s wishes.

I finally found some peace. I changed my name to Hao Nguyen,” Keemo wrote. Keemo/Hao explained that he was honoring his mother’s memory by taking his maternal grandfather’s the name, and freeing himself from the conflict of being Jack Abbott’s son. “I feel like I’m on a new path,” the letter said, and Jack’s voice broke as he read it. Phyllis assured Jack that he was a great man and an incredible father. Jack said it seemed that Keemo found a way to move on. “I’m no longer angry, but I can’t look back for fear that rage will return. So while I’ve forgiven you, I can’t ever have a relationship with you. It’s better for everyone. I hope that you can understand that and forgive me. Your son, Keemo.”

Phyllis thought Jack was being selfless. She said Keemo chose something that was good for him, but bad for Jack. Jack agreed that it wasn’t good for him. He hated that Keemo never felt comfortable enough to reach out for him, but he was glad Keemo found some forgiveness in his heart at the end. All the letters were written in the last twelve months, as if Keemo knew he didn’t have much longer to live. Phyllis pointed out that the obituary said it was a heart attack. Jack knew that heart attacks were usually sudden, but he wondered if Keemo had received a diagnosis that made him decide to work through these issues. Jack sighed about all the questions, and Phyllis promised they’d get answers.

Phyllis went to the backyard. She returned and reported that it was gorgeous, filled with flowers, and there was an orange tree. She asked if Jack wanted to see it. He wanted to leave, as he was feeling overwhelmed. Phyllis said there were more letters to go through, so he couldn’t stop now. She picked up the letters and found a picture of Keemo, two women and a young girl. She showed it to Jack. On the back, it said Vietnam, June 2012.

Nikki: How reliable do you think this doctor’s word is? That ashland would pay the man to alter his medical records? It just seems so far-fetched.

Victor: Sweetheart, michael baldwin was a prosecutor, one of the sharpest legal minds around. He found the testimony credible.

Nikki: Yeah, but, I mean, who knows? This guy doesn’t even work there anymore probably. He could just be a disgruntled employee looking for money or attention or both.

Victor: I have considered all of that, okay? Let me just say that michael is continuing to investigate.

Nikki: I still don’t understand why ashland would lie about his recovery. To what end?

Victoria: Hi.

Nikki: Ohh, victoria. I was just thinking about you.

Victoria: Oh. What’s on your mind?

Nikki: Just wondered how you were doing, how ashland is feeling.

Victoria: We’re both doing well. Thank you.

Nikki: Join me for a cup of tea?

Victoria: Oh, I — I wish i could, but I have to get back to the office.

Nikki: Oh. Is everything alright?

Victoria: Everything is great, mother.

Ashland: Just — just hold on for a second. So — so, it’s confirmed? The american digging up dirt in peru is michael baldwin? Well, that’s just fantastic. Okay. Uh, find him. I want to know everything he’s doing. I want to know what he’s looking for. And listen to me now. Find that doctor right now. Yeah.

[ Sighs heavily ]

Billy: What’s going on, jack? You text me to come over here ’cause you need to talk.

Jack: I wanted to bring the family up to speed on what’s happened and what’s about to happen.

Billy: Okay. Well, you mentioned family, but why is phyllis here?

Phyllis: Oh, because I’m supporting jack ’cause he’s my friend.

Jack: I’m sorry ashley can’t be here. I will fill her in, as well as kyle, as soon as I have some more answers.

Billy: Answers on what?

Jack: About my son — keemo.

Victor: Son.

Adam: Dad. I, uh — I was actually gonna call you. I didn’t get a lot of sleep last night after our conversation. Couldn’t stop thinking about what you, uh, hinted at.

Victor: Yeah. Neither can I.

I may have moderate to

severe rheumatoid arthritis.

Billy: Is keemo okay?

Jack: No, I’m afraid not. I have a received a series of mysterious, anonymous text messages encouraging me to go to an address in los angeles. Phyllis helped me try to get to the bottom of it. We found that the owner of the property was someone named hao nguyen. That is keemo’s grandfather’s name. With a little more work, we learned that keemo had taken his name. With still more digging, we learned that three weeks ago, my son passed away.

Billy: [ Sighs ] I’m so sorry. I… was he ill?

Jack: I-I don’t know any of the details. I’m still in a bit of shock.

Billy: Well, when was the last time you talked to him?

Jack: I haven’t seen or heard from him in years.

Billy: Years? Every time I asked you about him, you said that you were in contact with him.

Jack: I know what I led you to believe. I wasn’t completely honest about that. Keemo cut me out of his life soon after his mother died. He felt betrayed that I didn’t tell him how sick she was, and he never forgave me for it.

Billy: But he made his peace before he left town, did he not?

Jack: He did. No sooner was he out of town than that resentment grew and he turned his back on me. And I had trouble accepting that, and I kept thinking that he’d change his mind, he’d come back to me, and so I convinced people that things were strong and good between us.

Billy: I’m so sorry. I didn’t know. And given this — the situation, I’m sure this is, uh, even more shocking.

Jack: Yeah, it’s been quite a lot. Anyway, I am leaving for los angeles later today.

Billy: For the funeral? Well, just give me a couple minutes and I can pack my bags and I can —

Jack: I don’t know that there’s going to be any kind of funeral service. I don’t know what I’m walking into. All I know is what I have from these texts, the address, and that’s where I’m gonna start — at keemo’s former home. This may just turn out to be a trip to make decisions about keemo’s estate, however big or small.

Billy: Of course.

Jack: But for his sake, I’ve got to follow this wherever it may lead.

Victor: Boys, something very serious has come up, something that relates to newman empire and to the entire family.

Nick: Alright, what is this about? And if it involves the family or the business, victoria should be here.

Adam: Well, probably because it is about victoria and ashland. Dad asked me to keep an eye on him.

Victor: Exactly right. We need to find a way to protect not only our family, but especially victoria.

Nick: Protect her from what? If it’s such a big deal, why is this the first time I’m hearing about it?

Victor: Because I’m waiting for confirmation from michael baldwin, who is in peru digging for more information.

Nick: Peru? Is that where ashland went for his miracle cure?

Victor: Yes.

Adam: What, uh, did you find out?

Victor: It puts into question everything we have ever thought about ashland locke and his motives.

Nick: I don’t want to hear any more about this. If michael baldwin is involved, he’s probably out just digging up dirt.

Victor: Trust me, son. You want to hear this.

Nick: No, the last time i trusted you, dad, and i investigated ashland, it hurt my relationship with victoria, and it’s never been the same since. And I don’t want to risk making it worse by going down that path again.

[ Door opens ]

Victoria: Oh, hello there.

Ashland: Hello.

Victoria: You were up and out so early this morning. I thought you could use some coffee.

Ashland: Well, thank you very much, but I think we might need something a little stronger to celebrate.

Victoria: What are we celebrating?

Victor: Business affairs has drafted the new contract that, uh, changes my title to — let’s see — ah, yes, co-ceo of newman/locke.

Victoria: Already?

Ashland: [ Chuckles ]

Victoria: Wow. The lawyers usually take forever with all of the legalese and fine print.

Ashland: Well, I asked them to put a rush on it.

Victoria: Really? Why did you do that?

Ashland: Well, because, uh, more — more so now than ever, I’ve come to realize that every second of life matters, that we have to take advantage of every precious moment we have and not waste any time. And that’s why I’m also looking forward to starting this new phase of our partnership.

Victoria: You know this contract — it doesn’t really change anything between us.

Ashland: Mm.

Victoria: We’re already equal partners in every way. And, you know, we can also take our time dotting all the I’s and crossing all the t’S. Don’t you think?

Ashland: Well, I’ve already been here for a couple of hours. You know, some of us come in here early. And I’ve already looked over the contract. It is sound. These guys in business affairs — they know their stuff. It is an excellent contract. I’m ready to sign right now. Unless, of course, you’ve changed your mind. I’m amber, I’ve lost 128 pounds with golo,

Victoria: What would make you think that I’ve changed my mind? You’ve made quite a compelling case.

Ashland: Well, I think so, but you were hesitant at first, and I just want you to feel comfortable. Look, the last thing I want is for you to feel like you’re being pressured into something you don’t want to do. If you’re having second thoughts about this, now is the time to say it. But, victoria, our relationship is the most important thing in the world to me. I don’t want to do anything to jeopardize that. So, if you want to take a little more time on this, that’s fine. If you want to leave things exactly how they are, that’s fine. I would understand that.

Victoria: I appreciate that. But the original agreement was drawn up because, at the time, we were all very worried about your health. And now look at you. You’re in remission. And that changes everything. And, you know, you should be more than just my advisor. You should be my equal in business, just like you are in our marriage. Right? So, it’s time that we take the next step and we make you co-ceo.

Adam: Nick, aren’t you the least bit curious?

Nick: I learned my lesson. Any curiosity about ashland gets you burned. And I’m surprised you want to investigate him again, dad. I mean, you were his biggest champion and defender. I mean, what turned?

Victor: Let me be up front with both of you. I never really trusted that man from the moment he came into our lives, okay? So kindly just listen to what i have to say, and then you can make your decision, alright?

Nick: I made my decision about what I think about ashland a long time ago, and you know that. If you recall, I was left out of any of the conversations that had to do with dealing with this man’s lies in italy. You didn’t want to hear what i had to say. Why am I being involved now?

Victor: There are new developments. I’ve learned things about ashland locke that will not only affect our business, the newman empire, but our entire family, including you. I’ve learned things about him that will shock you. And there are things that are more repulsive than anything we’ve ever learned about him.

Billy: I’m sorry that you, uh — you felt the need to have to cover up what was really going on. I don’t like the fact that you had to paint this rosy, “everything’s fine” picture for us.

Jack: I didn’t just paint it for you. I painted it for me. It was self-defense, a wall i built to keep the pain away.

Billy: Well, nothing you just said changes anything for me, okay? And if you let me, I’d like to come to L.A. To be there for you.

Jack: No, no, no, I meant what I said. I don’t — I don’t need you. I don’t even know what I’m walking into.

Billy: Well, that’s even more reason why I should be there for you. Jack, this — this kind of pain, this kind of grief — I know it, okay? It shuts your brain down. You end up not being able to think clearly. So let me be there for you to support you, please. Will you let me? Why do dermatologists worldwide recommend la roche-posay?

Jack: I’m sorry. I really feel I need to do this alone.

Traci: Jack, I agree with billy. Now is the time to rely on your family. You’ve kept us at arm’s length way too long. You’ve been living with all of this alone. I appreciate that you’ve told us what’s happening, but I’m asking you, please take the next step. Let us all the way in. You can’t go on doing this. That’s why I want to go to los angeles with you.

Billy: She’s right. We should both go.

Phyllis: Well, we should all go. All of us. Jack, you’ve… I mean, you’ve always been there for us. Let us be there for you.

Traci: Jack, I know how hard this is gonna be to face. We know what it’s like to lose a child, and I know this, too — no matter how well you think you’re handling all of this, the pain is going to be waiting to resurface cruelly, when you least expect it. That’s why I want to be there by your side through this.

Jack: I appreciate the offer. I really do. But that is the best reason for you and billy not to be any part of this. I don’t want my losses to compound yours.

Billy: No, you don’t need to worry about us. We can handle it, okay? We need to be there for you. In fact, I don’t want you going anywhere alone.

Jack: Fine. I won’t go there alone. Phyllis has been instrumental in getting me through the first part of this puzzle. If you’re able to get away, I’d like you to go with me.

Billy: Jack, I understand phyllis has been helpful, but, uh, she’s not family.

Jack: I appreciate what you’re saying. This is what I need to do. This is what is best for me. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go get packed.

Phyllis: If you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go get packed. I mean, I know you’re both upset because jack chose me to go to los angeles with him, but I want you to know that I have his best interests at heart.

Traci: Phyllis, I know how much you care about him, but i also know that your relationship has been on tenuous ground for months now. So I’m asking you — please, can you put that aside?

Phyllis: Traci, traci, traci —

Traci: No, no, jack is really fragile right now.

Phyllis: I understand he’s fragile. I get it. He’s on edge. I understand. I care about him, too. Listen, I think getting to the bottom of this mystery will help him with his loss. I will take care of him. I promise you.

Traci: [ Sighs ]

Nikki: Excuse me.

Ashland: Oh!

Nikki: Did I hear you correctly? You’re changing your titles to co-ceo?

Victoria: Yes, mom. As a matter of fact, we are.

Nikki: Well, I thought ashland was very happy serving as an advisor.

Victoria: Well, that was before his recovery.

Ashland: Yeah, I’m feeling much better now, more like my old self. You know, I’m really wanting to get in there, take a little more responsibility, maybe have a stronger hand in running things around here.

Nikki: Oh, well, I would say you already have a strong hand at newman/locke. I’ve seen the deference you’re treated with. They clear the halls when they see you coming down.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ] That’s only because I’m standing next to, you know, her. No, look, what I need is for people — the employees here — to respect me in the same way they respect victoria, at an equal level.

Nikki: Uh-huh. Um, do you think that’s the right way to go about it?

Victoria: Yes, mom, it is the right thing to do, given the new circumstances. And please don’t think it will in any way change your role here.

Nikki: I’m not worried about that at all. I mean, I don’t need a contract or a title to feel secure about my position here. I’m just surprised because victor never said anything to me about this.

Victoria: Well, that’s because we didn’t feel like it was necessary to tell him.

[ Door closes ]

Victor: So, michael baldwin has discovered that ashland locke told us a whole story about that clinic in peru that supposedly had a life-saving therapy for his cancer. He didn’t go there for that reason. He has been funneling money to that place for years through a shell company.

Adam: Why would he do that?

Victor: He said he had to do that because of some international tax law. I thought that was bogus. So I told michael baldwin to go down there and investigate the situation.

Adam: Well, something definitely sounds shady.

Victor: Well, michael baldwin talked to a physician who worked at that clinic. And he had that physician talk on camera and testify to the fact that ashland locke went down there to have them falsify his medical records.

Nick: Why would he lie about his recovery?

Adam: Yeah, I mean, why do something cruel like that and let victoria believe they have more time than they did, give her some false sense of hope?

Nick: Who does that? And what does it mean? Is ashland still dying?

Victor: Guys, you’re both missing the point. The point is, ashland locke was never sick at all. Goal!

“The young and the restless”

will continue. Lactaid is 100% real milk, just without the lactose.

[ Glass thuds ]

Nick: Are you sure ashland is faking his illness?

Adam: Yeah. How can that be?

Nick: I mean, you got any proof? Because if this is all you’ve got, some disgruntled employee, it’s not enough to destroy victoria’s life.

Victor: Michael baldwin ran into another physician who used to work at at that clinic who corroborated everything the other doctor had told him. Ashland locke never went there for any treatment. He was never ill.

Nick: I don’t get how this is possible. Didn’t victoria go with ashland to new york after he received his diagnosis, where he was then given confirmation that he is terminally ill?

Victor: I believe so.

Adam: Yeah, and he was undergoing chemo here in genoa city with a doctor.

Nick: And this is long before he received any treatments in peru.

Victor: That is how nefarious and deep ashland locke’s deception is.

Adam: Okay, so, for this to be true, his doctor in new york would have to be in on it, or he would have to pay money for false records to get a doctor to say he was sick when he was perfectly healthy. So, what about the doctor here?

Nick: So he was lying about going through chemo.

Victor: If you remember, he never wanted anything to accompany him to his appointments.

Adam: But what about nate? He was also consulted. I mean, out of nowhere, ashland asked him to be his best man at the wedding. So, was he in on the scam, too?

Victor: I don’t think he has anything to do with it.

Nick: So, if what you’re saying is true and he was lying this whole time about being sick, he is now pretending to be miraculously cured.

Victor: That’s right.

Adam: So, what are you going to do now?

Victor: My boys, I have enough evidence to deal with that man. And I will deal with him.

Nikki: Victoria, I really think that it’s a mistake for you to do something like this without your father’s input. Victor needs to know.

Victoria: It’s not dad’s decision to make. It’s mine and mine alone.

Nikki: Yeah. Well, a plan of your own will cease to exist once you sign that agreement.

Victoria: I realize that.

Nikki: I mean, you have done such an amazing job controlling the company that your father built from nothing. Victor has always been your strongest advisor. I mean, the least you can do is let him know what you’re planning. You owe him that much.

Victoria: I guess you’re right. I think we should let my father know before it’s a done deal.

Nikki: Oh, well… ashland, I hope that you’re not offended. I mean, of course I am thrilled to learn that you are doing so well. And we want you to be around for a good long time. You make my daughter so happy. That makes me happy.

Ashland: I am not offended.

[ Chuckles ] I would not want to make a change like this that’s so important without the blessing of all the newmans.

Traci: [ Sighs ] I still cannot believe jack kept so much pain private for so long.

Billy: I know. And we all just trusted him and believed him when he said that he and keemo were in touch and that, you know, they had made peace.

Traci: And I hate that he felt like he had to maintain this lie. He couldn’t trust us with the truth? It must have been devastating to live with that secret.

Billy: Every time I asked him about keemo, his response was very quick. Now that I think about it, it was almost too quick. Like, I didn’t even have a second to ask him how his son was doing. He’d almost just kind of moved on already.

Traci: And I feel terrible about it. I mean, why didn’t I notice this and ask questions? Maybe I could have coaxed the truth out of him. For god’s sake, I’m a writer. I’m obsessed with language and the use of words. Why didn’t I notice that he was being purposefully vague?

Billy: I hear you. I get it. Honestly, traci, we can’t do anything about that now.

Traci: You’re right.

Billy: We just be here for him.

Traci: Because we both know the hell that’s headed this way, and when it hits, it is going to hit hard.

Billy: What’s going on here? I mean, somebody sending him anonymous text messages? Do you know anything about this? All he said was that they were mysterious.

Traci: And that’s what I know about them — very mysterious. Someone is sending them, and they are not willing to identify themselves. They’re telling jack to go to los angeles, where he is going to find a world he never knew existed, and he’ll be sorry if he doesn’T.

Billy: I don’t like it. Somebody’s hiding something, and jack is vulnerable right now. It’s not good.

Traci: I agree. And I raised all of these concerns with him. But phyllis has been pushing him from the very beginning to pursue this. She thinks it would be best for him to focus on finding out what really happened with keemo.

Billy: Well, I guess I’m not the only person that thinks taking phyllis is a bad idea, for no other reason than it’s phyllis. Trouble is going to follow her. We know that.

Traci: I just don’t know if there’s anything that we can do to change his mind at this point.

Billy: You’re probably right.

Traci: I feel so helpless. Ugh. But I can do something. You know what? Sustenance. The last thing he’s gonna think about is getting something to eat, so I’m gonna run out and get some food for the trip, okay?

Billy: I can stay. I don’t think he should be alone right now.

Traci: Thank you, honey. I’ll be back shortly.

Billy: Okay, I’ll see you in a bit.

[ Door closes ]

Jack: Wow, it seems the room has cleared out.

Billy: Yeah, it has, and now it’s just the two of us. Brother to brother, I got to ask you — are you sure about this? When I get a migraine,

Jack: I assure you I can handle this trip to L.A.

Billy: Well, I hope you’re right, jack, because, you know, you said it yourself — you’re not sure what you’re walking into.

Jack: Billy, I have no choice. There’s too much I don’t know about my son — where he lived, how he lived, how he survived these last several years. What did he do? How did he die? There’s too much I missed that I don’t know. I need some closure.

Billy: Jack, unfortunately, i don’t think closure comes when you’re talking about the death of a child. That’s not the kind of pain you put on a shelf and just lock away. Look, I understand you needing to find answers. And a lot of times, the imagination can be worse than the truth.

Jack: Thank you for understanding that.

Billy: I hope you find your answers. And if you need anything, you call me and I’m out on the next flight.

Jack: I know that. I can always count on you.

Billy: And I would be remiss if I didn’t say this, so I’m going to. You be careful, and you make sure that phyllis has your best interests at heart, not her own.

Jack: Phyllis is my close friend. I trust her implicitly. She has proven time and again that she has my back. That is why I am taking her with me.

Billy: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: Ah, traci, please. I’m going with jack. Please don’t try to talk me out of this, okay?

Traci: Phyllis, phyllis, stop. That’s not what I’m here for. Listen, unlike billy, I just wanted to tell you I’m very grateful that you’ve decided to go with jack on this trip.

Phyllis: Well, I’m surprised to hear you say that.

Traci: Why? I understand why jack would prefer to take you over billy and me.

Traci: Yes, yes, we can relate to losing a child. But I can see that jack is on the edge.

Phyllis: Yeah, he’s very torn.

Traci: And I’m also afraid that this wall that he’s built around his feelings with keemo for all of these years — at any moment, it could just come crumbling down. And I think he senses it, and i think he’s terrified. And at some level, I think he also knows that if this situation were to re-ignite our grief over the loss of our own children, he wouldn’t be able to handle it. And he needs his reserves for what he’s going to face.

Phyllis: Exactly. I think you’re right.

Traci: And as much as I want to be there for jack, I think it’s better that he doesn’t have to worry about my feelings, that he can focus on his own.

Phyllis: That’s very nice of you. Jack is very lucky to have such a considerate sister.

Traci: Well, I’m counting on you, phyllis, to give him what he needs.

Phyllis: [ Scoffs ] I’ll do that.

Traci: Phyllis, I know that there is a mystery to be solved here. And jack could not have picked a better partner to help him get to the bottom of whatever this is. But first and foremost, please, please take care of my brother. Protect his big heart.

Adam: I still can’t get my head around why ashland would go to such extreme. I mean, was this merely a ploy to win over victoria out of sympathy? What, does he not trust his abilities to win her over on his own?

Victor: Far more sinister than that. It’s a long con with a very bad end game. And I wonder how long he’s been planning this.

Nick: This goes beyond any of past crimes.

Victor: You know what he was after? Power and control over two huge business empires — newman enterprises and his own.

Adam: Why would he need to resort to faking cancer for that? The guy’s almost as good at making deals as you are.

Victor: Because it made people feel empathetic. They felt sorry for him. And everyone fell for it, including victoria. And she fell deeply. But so did most of us. Except you, son. And I had my doubts about the son of a bitch from the beginning.

Nick: Well, I wish I was wrong about it, but I knew that he was just a liar and a criminal. And he took advantage of victoria’s love for his own greed and financial gain. I’m gonna kill him. Truth is… I’ve never really known how to care for my hardwood floors.

Traci: I can’t imagine for a moment you remembered to eat something, so I got you some sandwiches and fruit and snacks for the trip for you and phyllis, and you’ve got to keep your strength up. Phyllis, make sure he follows instructions.

Jack: Thank you for looking out for me. You always know what’s best.

Traci: I just wish I could do more. But you’re in good hands, and you need to keep in touch with us. Let us know what you find.

Jack: Okay. A lot’s gonna be going on. I might not be great at telephone calls and…

Phyllis: I’ll keep you updated.

Jack: Well, I guess we should go.

Billy: You be careful. And you promise me you’ll stay on guard.

Jack: I promise. You ready?

Phyllis: Yeah. The question is, are you?

Jack: Well, I’m as ready as I’ll ever be. I want to know what’s on the other end of these texts. And if I don’t get closure, at least I want to find out more about the man my son became. Love you.

Traci: Love you.

Nikki: Ashland, I think it’s very wise of you to want victor’s blessing. After all, he has been your biggest defender through all the crises we have had to face. Why would this be any different?

Ashland: Uh, because this is not a crisis? This is more of a celebration of my recovery. Think of it as a crisis averted.

Nikki: Well, that’s, uh, one way to look at it.

Ashland: Yeah. Uh, if you two will excuse me, I, uh — I have some things i need to tend to.

[ Clears throat ]

[ Door closes ]

Victoria: Mom…are you okay? You seem like you’re troubled.

Nikki: No. Uh, I-I’m a little tired, that’s all. Other than that, I’m fine.

Victoria: Okay, good. I’m glad to hear it. So, if there is nothing wrong, then do you want to tell me what’s on your mind?

Nikki: Victoria, you really need to speak to your father about this title change. He needs to know.

Victoria: Okay. I — I understand. I get it. I’ll go talk to dad.

Nikki: Good. And if for some reason, that doesn’t happen… I will certainly tell him.

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Ashland: Uh, dr. Reilly? Yeah. No, I have not given anyone permission to look at my medical records, nor will I. Thank you.

[ Sighs heavily ]

Victor: Okay, I understand your anger, my boy. I feel the same, okay? This man has managed to infiltrate our family and is threatening to destroy the empire that I built for decades. No one does that.

Nick: Forget the empire. What are we gonna do about the damage to victoria?

Victor: Don’t forget the empire, son. Part and parcel of the same thing. In regards to victoria, we have to tread very carefully. This news will be devastating to her.

Adam: So, what do you suggest do? I don’t see how we do this without upsetting her.

Victor: Son, I’ll handle him my way.

Recap written by Christine

At Newman Media, Nick wanted to know what was going down between Ashland, Victor and Victoria. Adam said he’d call Nick if there was news. Nick decided to stay at the office instead. Adam asked if that meant Nick was ready to team up with Victor in calling Ashland out. Nick didn’t know what he was going to do, but if Victoria was in trouble, he couldn’t walk away. Adam said it was too bad Nick wasn’t here earlier to help him stall Victoria. Adam tried, but he was Victoria’s least favorite person, and she left early on. A suspicious Nick asked Adam how hard he tried. “Things could be blowing up with Dad and Victoria right now. I don’t think you’d have a problem with that,” Nick said.

Adam said there was no part of him that was enjoying this situation. “You and Vick aren’t close. You don’t support each other,” Nick stated. Adam pointed out that he did a lot to support Victoria at the wedding. Nick countered that Adam did that for Victor, not Victoria. Adam said, regardless of his motives, he did a hell of a lot more than Nick, who didn’t even go to the ceremony. Nick explained he told Victoria who Ashland really was, and she asked him to stay away from the wedding. “Neither you nor I wanted this guy to be part of the family,” Adam replied. After Victor welcomed Ashland with open arms, knowing what he was capable of, Adam decided to trust Victor’s judgment and keep his mouth shut. Nick thought Adam had been filled with resentment ever since, especially after Victor sold Newman Media to Victoria and Ashland. Adam thought Ashland was a backstabbing SOB, and he was glad he wouldn’t have to answer to Ashland anymore, assuming Victor’s plan worked. However, that wasn’t the same as celebrating Victoria’s broken heart. Adam said he wasn’t that vindictive or small. He suggested Nick was projecting his own feelings about the situation. Nick had predicted Ashland would do something terrible, but he wasn’t happy to be right about it. He said Victoria had been through more betrayals than anyone he’d ever met, and she’d be crushed when she found out Ashland had been playing her for a fool.

Nick suspected Adam knew what Victor’s plan was. Adam understood why Nick would think that, given what happened in Tuscany, but Adam really didn’t know. Nick believed him. Adam speculated that Victor was going to try and get Ashland to confess and turn himself in to the police. Nick said faking cancer wasn’t a crime. Adam thought Ashland committed fraud when he used the fake illness to trick Victoria into marrying him. Nick said it was grounds for annulment, but he wasn’t sure it was a crime. He thought that it would be hard for Victoria to get Ashland out of her life, since he owned half of Newman Locke.

Adam thought it was ironic that Victoria got all this praise for making the merger of the decade, when she was actually falling into a trap and taking the whole family down with her. “If I find out you’re using this to your advantage…” Nick warned. Adam said none of this was his fault. He told Nick to go find Locke if he wanted to punish someone. Adam contended that Nick wouldn’t confront Locke, because he wanted to stay neutral. He told Nick to stop trying to be the good guy when he didn’t have skin in the game. Nick wasn’t neutral; he was pissed, but he was staying out of it because he didn’t know what Victor’s plan was. He would be there for Victoria if she needed him. Adam thought Victoria would need more than a shoulder to cry on. Nick said he saw this coming fifty miles away, and he tried telling everyone, but nobody would listen. He said he could tell Victoria that she made her bed, or he could let Ashland get away with all this. Neither option would be easy for Nick. “You always pretend to be above it all, bu the truth is when the chips are down and someone comes after one of the Newmans, you’re gonna get pulled back in just like the rest of us,” Adam said.

Sally visited Adam after Nick left. She saw Nick and Victor leaving earlier, and she asked if this family drama was none of her business or something that could affect Newman Media. He told her that Ashland and Victoria’s marriage was likely about to implode. Sally hoped that was a horrible joke and that the relationship wasn’t already over after that incredible wedding. Adam said things weren’t always as they appeared, especially when it came to Locke. Sally said she’d never forgive Locke if he was cheating on Victoria. Adam didn’t realize Sally was so invested in this relationship. Sally wouldn’t put it that way, but she felt for Victoria, whose wedding made international news, partially because of the dress Sally designed. Sally said Victoria would be heartbroken and humiliated. Sally knew Victoria and Adam weren’t close siblings, but Sally thought that he had to be somewhat sympathetic to his sister. Adam said of course he felt bad. Not long ago, he got his heart broken by someone he loved and trusted, and he wouldn’t wish that on his worst enemy. Sally asked why Adam was so calm. He said that Victoria was a survivor, just like the rest of the Newmans, and the family would rally around her. Sally assumed Victor was disappointed because he was counting on Victoria and Ashland to run his empire. If Ashland got kicked to the curb, Victoria would be distracted and question her decisions; she could lose focus and Newman Locke could suffer. Sally and Adam exchanged a look as they thought about the future of Newman Locke. She asked who’d be in charge if this happened. “Ten billion dollar question,” he replied.

Victoria knocked on her office door and called out to Ashland. Inside the locked office, Victor asked Ashland if they had a deal. Nikki walked up hoping to fill Victoria in on the marketing meeting. Nikki learned Victoria was locked out and her key was inside. Nikki went to get her key. Back in the office, Victor said he had proof that Ashland lied about his illness. Ashland countered that Victor only had theory. Victor said he could show Victoria the proof, but he’d rather not upset her unnecessarily. Victor said that if Ashland loved Victoria at all, he’d tell her his cancer was back, return to Peru and then cut ties with her as painlessly as possible. “If you don’t follow my terms you will suffer the consequences of your deception,” Victor warned. Victoria got into the office, thanks to Nikki, and asked what the hell was going on.

Ashland lied and said he must’ve accidentally locked the door when he came in. Victoria asked Victor what he was doing there when he said he wanted to meet in Adam’s office. Ashland said that was his fault too. He stated that Victor reached out and wanted to talk to him privately about the plan to make Ashland c-CEO of Newman Locke. “Apparently Nikki was right, and your father has reservations,” Ashland said. Victor asked Nikki when she found out about this. Nikki said she found out today, and told Victoria to discuss it with Victor. Victoria wanted to know how Victor found out. He didn’t think that was important. She asked why he wanted to talk to Ashland alone. He assured her that he and Ashland had a productive conversation.

Victoria made it clear that she and Ashland were a team. Ashland assured Victoria that he and Victor both wanted what was best for her and Newman Locke. Victoria asked what issue Victor had with Ashland becoming co-CEO of the company that bore his name. Victor pretended he was concerned about Ashland’s health. Victoria said Ashland cleared this with is doctor. She stated that Ashland was like her and Victor – he was fueled by his work. She’d seen that Ashland was getting stronger, and she thought it would be good for the company if he took a larger role. Nikki sided with Victor. Victoria said that if Ashland’s condition worsened, he could take a step back. Victoria saw no reason to deny Ashland the tile he deserved. She was prepared to sign the papers right now. She grabbed the contract, and Ashland looked back at Victor and smiled. Nikki thought they should at least wait a day or two. Ashland was amenable to that. Victoria was determined to sign the papers today. She said it was her decision and it was the right thing to do.

Victoria signed the contract, while Nikki shot an alarmed look at Victor. Ashland suddenly doubled over while breathing heavily. Ashland said he was okay, he just needed to go outside for air. Nikki was very concerned as she watched Victoria hustle Ashland out of the office. Victor told the worried Nikki that what she’d just witnessed was all an act. “He did exactly what I asked him to do.” Victor told Nikki about the ultimatum he gave Ashland. She asked if Ashland admitted to the lie. He thought it was telling that Ashland backed off from signing the document. Victor contended that Ashland was a monster. She was concerned Ashland was really sick. She said that Ashland might be telling Victoria everything right now, and Victoria would side with him and be furious with Victor. At that moment, Victoria returned, saying Ashland insisted on being alone.

Victoria told Victor that what he’d done to Ashland was unacceptable. “You upset and you insulted my husband. Acting like we’re doing him some favor by allowing him to help us run this company that he half owns!,” she snapped. She stated that Ashland was a brilliant businessman who was feared and respected by top corporate leaders. She asked why she’d keep an asset like that on a sideline. Victor saw no issue with Ashland advising Victoria sometimes, but he saw no reason to give Ashland all this authority. Victoria said it was frustrating for Ashland to work this way. Victor said that Ashland may have had a relapse. Victoria thought that Ashland just had a reaction to the pressure Victor put on him. She didn’t believe Victor was objecting because of Ashland’s health. Victoria thought that Victor just wanted to be in control, and he couldn’t stand the fact that she was making decisions. She asked why he couldn’t learn to trust her judgment. She stated that she deserved to be in the place, and she wanted him to let her do her job at her company as she saw fit.

Victoria stormed out of the office and ran into Nick in the hallway. She asked what he was doing here, and he said he came to check on her. She didn’t believe he just happened to be in the neighborhood. “You’re here because you knew exactly what Dad was up to,” she said. She asked if the whole family had been discussing this behind her back. Victoria wondered how old she had to be and what she needed to do do live her life without constant interference from their father. Nick thought Victoria should get out of the business – the closer you are to the fire, the more you were burned. Victoria said that Victor had been going behind her back and spying on her, and she thought Nick came because he knew what Victor was up to. Nick clarified that he had nothing to do with it and only found out a little while ago. Victoria made it clear that Nick had better not be lying to her. He said he was telling the truth. He learned awhile ago not to get involved in her life. “I didn’t even know Dad was gonna tell you about it,” he said. Victoria realized she and Nick were talking about different things. “Wait a minute. Tell me what?,” she asked.

Ashland was on the phone at Society. “You need to find everyone who’s talking to Michael Baldwin and put an end to it. Immediately and forever. Do we understand each other?” he said.

Devon dropped by the Chancellor Mansion, and Abby told him that if he was there to see Dom, his timing couldn’t be better, because the baby was fresh out of the bath. Devon wondered why Dom was bathed in the middle of the day, and Abby explained that he’d had sweet potatoes and peas for the first time. Devon was happy to hear Abby had pictures of the event. She was glad Dom’s appetite was back. Devon wanted Dom to come to his place for a couple days if that was okay with Abby and Chance. Abby said the baby was still in recovery, and they had to be careful. Devon said he would be. Abby wasn’t implying otherwise. Chance came home from his walk, and Abby filled him in. it was hard for Abby to imagine Dom not being here; she still woke up a couple times a night to check on him. Devon understood – he kept waking up at night worrying about Dom. Chance thought this wasn’t such a bad idea. He reminded Abby that he’d been a little worried, given what was happening later. He told Devon that he had his first therapy session today. Chance thought he may have still been avoiding all this if it weren’t for Devon’s encouragement. Chance told a curious Abby that Devon helped him realize he couldn’t do this alone. Chance was concerned he’d be a bit “off” after the session, and he didn’t want Dominic to see him like that. Abby said Chance was right, and she apologized for hesitating earlier. Devon told Abby she didn’t ever have to apologize to him. She went to pack Dominic’s stuff.

Devon appreciated Chance helping Abby be cool with this. Chance felt lucky to have a friend like Devon. He reiterated that hearing Devon open up about his struggles helped him. Devon said that it took a strong person to do what Chance did, and this would help his whole family. Devon said therapy wasn’t like flipping a light switch, but he had no doubt Chance would make it to the other side. Later, Devon left with the baby. Abby wondered if it would get easier to watch Dom leave. Chance said Abby would get used to it, and by the time Dom went off to the first day of school, she’d be a tough mom who didn’t cry at all. She didn’t even want to think about that. She said Dom would have a great time with Devon, and she could give Chance her undivided attention when he got home from therapy. She wanted to ride with him, and go shopping while he was in therapy. He promised he’d be fine. He wasn’t even sure he’d click with this doctor. She told him there was no pressure today, and it would all be okay, because she’d be here waiting for him when she got home. He found that comforting. They kissed.

Devon took Dominic to the penthouse and told him he’d always have a home here, even when he was an adult with a family of his own. Devon played a song on the piano for Dom.

Chance met with Dr. Huffman, who was ex-military like Chance. Chance asked if he saw action. Dr. Huffman saw things he couldn’t forget. He asked how Chance found his way here. Chance explained that Sharon Rosales was a close family friend, and she thought Chance would be more comfortable with someone who served. Chance wasn’t comfortable at all though. Dr. Huffman didn’t think anyone was at ease on their first day. He asked why Chance was here. “I just want to be me,” Chance replied. Chance opened up about his marriage – Abby was great and supportive. He said he had one child so far. He explained the circumstances surrounding Dominic’s conception; how Chance needed a donor because of an infection he got after he was shot while working as a police detective. Dr. Huffman learned that Dom was carried by a surrogate and that Chance missed the whole pregnancy. Chance said he missed a lot, and Abby said he’d catch up, but… He explained that they were now sharing custody with the donor, a close friend. Dr. Huffman asked if the custody change was difficult for Chance. It wasn’t for Chance, but it was for Abby. Chance saw that Devon adored Dom. Chance was still waiting to connect with Dom and feel like Dom was his son. “You know the way that I would feel if I was the man I was before I went on that mission,” Chance said. Dr. Huffman thought Chance needed to talk about what happened in Spain.

Dr. Huffman asked what happened in Spain. Chance said his team’s cover was blown, but they had no warning. He was bringing groceries into the safe house when all hell broke loose. It was like the earth was ripped in half. He was blown back and he was pretty out of it. When the smoek cleared, the whole building was gone. He looked for his team and didn’t find anyone. He saw some men slowly walking through the site. They were looking for survivors to finish them off. Chance buried himself in rubble and played dead. When everyone heard the sirens, the men took off, and Chance did the same. Some former medic friends of his patched him up. His family was told he was dead. Abby didn’t believe him and went looking for him. His family kept saying he was lucky and a hero. It didn’t sit well with him. Chance replayed that day in Spain every day. He said there were certain triggers like smells, or the sky being a certain shade of blue that brought him back to that day. He dreamed about it too. Usually, he just saw faces of his team. Chance felt like he was being punished for failing his team.

Chance went home. Abby wanted to know what happened at the meeting, then she said it was none of her business. He said he was exhausted, and there was a lot of work to do. She knew he had a lot of broken pieces that needed to be put back together, but she loved him always and they’d get through it together. She was proud of him.

I don’t want Victoria to get hurt any more than you do,” Nick told Victor, “but what Ashland has done is unforgivable and he needs to be dealt with now.” Adam agreed with Nick, but he also agreed with Victor’s point that they couldn’t afford to be reckless. Nick didn’t think there was a way to handle Ashland without this blowing up in Victoria’s face. Victor intended to deal with Ashland one on one. Nick wondered why Victor brought called this meeting if he wasn’t going to share his plan. Victor didn’t know what else Ashland had up his sleeve.

At Newman Locke, Nikki wanted to know why Victoria hadn’t met with Victor yet. Victoria didn’t think she needed to go this instant, but Nikki thought Victor needed to know ASAP. Ashland returned and stopped short when he saw that Nikki was still in the office. Nikki stated that she was having a conversation with her daughter. Ashland said he’d come back later, but Victoria assured him he wasn’t interrupting. She told Nikki that he didn’t keep things from her husband – they were partners in every way. Victoria said Nikki was apparently concerned about how Victor would take the news of Ashland’s new title. Ashland hoped he’d be supportive. Nikki said that the company was Victor’s legacy, and it meant a great deal to him that it was being run by his oldest child. Ashland said changing his title wouldn’t diminish Victoria’s position. Victoria said she didn’t need Victor’s permission, but she did agree with Nikki that they should let him know soon. Ashland concurred, but he pointed out that they had a marketing meeting coming up. Nikki said she’d cover the meeting. Ashland said he’d go see Victor with Victoria, so they could present a united front. Victoria called Victor to set up the meeting. He told her to come to Newman Media. Victor then texted Ashland that they needed to speak in private without Victoria’s knowledge. Nikki saw the look on Ashland’s face and asked if something was wrong. Ashland said nothing was wrong; he just needed to meet with a former employee of Locke Communication Group.

Back at Newman Media, Nick left after finding out Victoria and Ashland were on their way. Before leaving, he told Victor to call when he needed Nick. Victor asked if Adam would support his plan. When Victoria got to Newman Media, she was surprised to see Adam waiting for her, and not Victor. She asked where their dad was, and Adam claimed he didn’t know. Victoria didn’t understand why Victor would just leave when he knew she was coming to discuss something important with him. Adam suggested Victoria bounce her ideas off him. She declined. He said they worked with each other now. She clarified that he worked for her. He agreed, and he said they both wanted the company to succeed. She said this was too high level, and she turned to leave. He stalled her by saying he wanted to talk about some potential ideas for Newman Media.

Victoria sat and listened to Adam, but she soon grew fed up, because she thought the things he was saying were over-ambitious and unfocused. She suggested he run this by his brilliant new COO, unless Sally was too busy designing a business suit, so she could look the part. Adam said Sally was more than capable of designing a wardrobe, but right now she was too busy working on a budget. “Can’t wait to crunch those numbers,” Victoria sarcastically said. Adam asked if Victoria could tone down the condescension. He knew she met with Sally, and Sally had some impressive ideas that not even Victoria could shoot down. Victoria asked if that was how Sally characterized their run in. Victoria assumed Sally was so confident in herself because she was sleeping with the boss. Adam thought that was a low blow even for Victoria. He reminded her that she shared sheets with a chief advisor. She said she and Ashland were married, and he was more than a chief advisor, as Adam would soon find out. She said he needed to respect Ashland, and she wouldn’t tolerate him running to Daddy every time he got his feelings hurt. She wasn’t sure if he had some delusion that he was going to run the company again, but he had to get rid of that pipe dream, because she and Ashland were running the show. He noted that she seemed very confident. She said she was, because what she and Ashland had was special. “That’s one word for it,” he replied. She asked why he looked so smug, and he said it was his resting face.

Adam was curious what it was about Victoria’s relationship with Ashland that worked so well. He asked her to share her wisdom. Victoria had better things to do, and she was going back to work. Adam tried stalling again by pointing out that they’d have to work together on a regular basis in their current positions. She said they’d see if he succeeded or failed. He said he’d succeed. Sally called, and Adam ignored it, saying it could wait. Victoria told him not to blow off his invaluable second in command on Victoria’s account. She headed to the door. He told her they weren’t finished, but she left anyway.

Victor met Ashland in Victoria’s office. “Ashland. I’m done playing games with you, okay? It ends now.” Victor locked the door, and Ashland thought that was a little dramatic. Victor confronted Ashland about pretending to have cancer. Ashland said his doctors would say the cancer was real. “The doctors you paid off or the ones that you supplied with falsified medical records?,” Victor asked. Ashland asked why he’d do such a thing. Victor thought Ashland dreamed of combining Locke and Newman and presiding over the behemoth. Ashland pointed out that Victoria was running the company. Victor said Ashalnd put the idea for the merger in Victoria’s head, and she felt sorry for him because she thought he only had a few months to live. “You played that game masterfully, but now it’s over,” Victor said.

Ashland accused Victor of being irrational. He said he’d been humiliated when his illness hit the press. Victor figured Ashland probably leaked the story. Ashland asked if he’d really walk away from his son and trick him into thinking his father was dying. Victor stated that Harrison wasn’t Ashland’s son. Ashland said Victor crossed a line. He recalled Victoria saying Victor could be cold and cruel. Victor calmly confirmed that he could be very cold and very cruel. He told Ashland to stop the bull. Victor had evidence Ashland paid off the doctors in Peru to falsify his records. Victor had people gathering information about Ashland’s shenanigans. Ashland said that he had enemies all over. “Doesn’t this feel like a set up?,” he asked. Victor was furious about what Ashland had done to Victor’s company, daughter, wife, and his grandchildren. “No one uses my family as a pawn in their dreadful game!,” Victor bellowed. “Under no circumstances will you let my daughter, Victoria feel that she was subject and victim of a hoax,” Victor snapped. Victor would rather have Victoria’s heart broken than her spirit broken by Ashland.

Victor demanded that Ashland take the following steps: Announce his cancer had returned, travel to Peru alone and wait for Victor to deem the time was right. Once Victor gave the signal, Ashland was to ask Victoria for a quick divorce and give her control of Newman Locke in the settlement. Finally, Victor wanted Ashland to disappear from Victoria’s life forever. Ashland sighed, and slowly asked why he’d ever walk away from the woman he loved.

Victor said not to insult his intelligence. He didn’t think there was any love in that relationship. “You have used my daughter as a pawn. As a means to an end,” Victor said. Ashland contended that he loved Victoria more than he’d ever loved anyone in his entire life, and she loved him too. Ashland asked what Victor thought Victoria would do if he suddenly flew to Peru and filed for divorce out of nowhere. “What do you think the powerful, strong willed daughter you raised would do? Do you think she would just sit back and accept it? That’s not going to happen,” Ashland said. Victoria showed up and found herself locked out of her office. She called out to Ashland.

Sharon and Rey were at Crimson Lights. She had a stack of bridal magazines, and he knew she was just waiting to pounce on Mariah and Tessa with them. She thought pounce was a strong word, but the wedding date was fast approaching, and there were a lot of decisions Mariah and Tessa hadn’t made yet. Sharon was afraid that if Mariah and Tessa didn’t make up their minds soon, the wedding might not happen. Rey said the wedding would come together, because it was meant to be. He reminded her that there was always a little magic involved in these things. She agreed. She was trying not to check in every second, but she wanted to help Mariah and Tessa if she could. He loved that she was so pumped about this, but he also loved that she understood that Mariah and Tessa could choose whatever they wanted, no matter how quirky or off-beat it was.

Rey looked forward to this wedding, but nothing would surpass his wedding to Sharon. He remembered staring into those big beautiful blue eyes. Sharon thought she kind of faded away during the ceremony, but she enjoyed the reception. Nick came in, and Rey called him the best man. Nick asked what, and Rey explained they were discussing weddings. Sharon asked Nick what was wrong. He didn’t want to talk about it. Rey stepped onto the patio to check in at work. Sharon repeated her question and assured him he could trust her. Nick said Ashland had done something despicable, and it could destroy Victoria, and Nick didn’t know how to help her.

Nick told Sharon how Victor learned that Ashland had been making donations to the clinic in Peru. Sharon didn’t think that was a big deal. Nick knew Sharon always wanted to see the best in everyone, but he said this time, Victor’s instincts were right. He explained that a couple of doctors went on record saying Ashland bribed them to say that he had cancer, but in reality, he was never sick. Sharon couldn’t even wrap her head around that. Nick said Ashland used Victoria to get his hands on the company. Nick swore Sharon to secrecy. He came to her because he needed someone to talk to about it. She promised she wouldn’t say anything, but she thought that Victoria needed to know as soon as possible. Nick said Victor claimed to have some plan that would cause Victoria the least amount of pain. Sharon thought that was risky. Nick said the last time he went to Victoria and told her what Ashland did, she was okay with it, so why would this time be different? Sharon didn’t think Nick gave Victoria enough credit. Sharon said that what Ashland did was unforgivable, it would destroy every ounce of trust Victoria had in him. As a cancer survivor, Sharon was appalled.

Nick was just as appalled. The conversation ended because Noah came in looking like he’d just rolled out of bed, as Sharon said. She said she heard Noah come home just after dawn. She was glad she knew he’d started staying at her place again, after that stint at his dad’s or she would’ve thought there was a prowler. Noah was sorry. He was trying to be quiet. Sharon said he was until he knocked over a lamp. Noah understood what Sharon was getting at and said he wasn’t drinking, he was just clumsy. He’d been with a girl he knew from high school. Sharon grinned and asked if it was romantic. Nick told Noah he didn’t have to answer that, because it said that was none of his parents’ business. Noah said the girl was just a friend, and they stayed out all night talking.

Nick said Noah was an adult, so he could stay out as long as he wanted, but Nick preferred a well-rested employee. Noah noted that this was the problem with working for your dad and living with your mom. Nick clarified that he wasn’t saying there was an issue. Sharon loved Noah living with her. Noah promised to get his work done and to get a good night’s sleep. He asked them to stop worrying about him. They said they’d try, but as parents, it was nearly impossible. Noah wondered why Sharon and Nick looked so intense when he walked in. Nick said he’d just vented to Sharon about the complications of being a Newman.

Upstairs, Mariah finished up a shocking phone call. Alarmed, Tessa asked what was wrong. Mariah said, apparently things were fine now, but Dominic needed a bone marrow transplant from Devon. Tessa said first Devon took on an expanded role in Dom’s life, and now he was helping Dom heal. She knew it was just biology, but it also seemed like a sign to her. Tessa thought Mariah didn’t seem happy. Mariah was happy Dom would be okay, but she didn’t understand why Abby and Devon didn’t tell her about her godson’s illness until after the fact. Tessa assumed they had their reasons. Mariah said Abby stated that she didn’t even tell the family, because she didn’t want to worry people unnecessarily. Tessa understood that, and she thought the most important thing was that things worked out. Mariah was thrilled Dominic was okay, and she said that Abby and Devon did spare her from panicking. Tessa said they’d visit Dom as soon as they could. Tessa shifted gears and said she took Noah’s suggestion to heart, and she thought they should combine their ideas to make the perfect wedding.

Mariah wasn’t sure what combining their top three ideas would even look like. Tessa pictured it including art, music and possibly costumes. Mariah asked where they’d get married. Tessa said they’d keep it local, surround themselves with art they loved from Chicago museums, and they’d get one of their favorite bands to play. Mariah asked about the murder mystery. Tessa thought that theme seemed too dark for a celebration. Mariah asked how they’d set this apart from other weddings, because every wedding had music and decorations. Tessa suggested they choose a time period based on their favorite art and dress according to that style – like a Mod influenced wedding featuring outfits worn in 1960s London. Tessa sensed Mariah hated it. Mariah didn’t hate it, but she didn’t think this was quite the right plan for them. She knew things would eventually come together, and they’d have the best wedding.

Mariah thought it might be good if everyone had a role in their wedding, maybe that would make them appreciate the day more. Tessa gently suggested that Mariah should stop talking. Mariah realized Tessa thought she was over-complicating things. “Only in a way that makes me love you more,” Tessa replied. Mariah said they had to trust that whatever they did would be spectacular. Tessa was sure it would be. Tessa thought about all the false starts, and all the times they got in their own way, which she took most of the blame for. Mariah said she was responsible for some of their breakups too. Tessa said they found their way back to each other, because they were destined to be together. They were beyond lucky, and as much as she wanted the wedding day to honor their guests, she wanted it to be about how much she and Mariah loved each other. Mariah agreed 100%, and she also thought Tessa just accidentally wrote a song that needed to be titled “Beyond Lucky.”

Rey walked into Crimson Lights, explaining that he’d just come back from the station. Nick wasn’t there anymore. Mariah and Tessa came downstairs and said they had an announcement. Mariah said they realized the specific ways they loved each other and how they wanted to express it. Tessa stated that this was an announcement that an announcement about their wedding was impending. Mariah said they needed their wisdom and expertise. Sharon, Rey and Noah all said supportive things.

Nick went back to Newman Media and told Adam that he’d changed his mind about not wanting to be involved. Adam didn’t have any news. He’d kept Victoria busy while Victor confronted Ashland, but she’d gotten fed up and insulted him. It had been hard for Adam to bite his tongue instead of throwing Ashland’s lies in Victoria’s face. Nick noted that Adam respected Victor’s wishes instead of doing that.

Recap written by Christine

At Crimson Lights, Nikki thought about Victor telling her that Ashland allegedly paid the clinic to alter his medical records. Victoria arrived, ending Nikki’s flashback. Nikki asked Victoria how she and Ashland were. Victoria said everything was fine. Nikki wanted Victoria to join her, but she said she had to go back to the office.

Ashland was on the phone at Newman Locke. He learned that Michael was the American who’d been snooping at the clinic. Ashland instructed the caller to keep tabs on Michael and to find that doctor ASAP. He ended the call, with a sigh. Victoria returned with coffee for Ashland, since he’d been up and out so early. He thought they needed something stronger to celebrate. His new contract had been drafted, making him co-CEO of Newman Locke. She was surprised it was finished so soon. He said he had the lawyers put a rush on it, because he’d come to realize every second mattered. She said that the contract didn’t change anything because they were already equal in every way, and they didn’t have to rush to dot all the Is and cross all the Ts. He’d been here early, and he’d looked over the contract, and he was ready to sign right now. She seemed hesitant, and he asked if she’d changed her mind.

Ashland said he didn’t want Victoria to feel pressured. He stated that their relationship was the most important thing in the world, and he was willing to give her time, or leave things as they were if she didn’t want to change things. She said the original agreement was drawn up because, at the time, they were worried about his health, and now he was in remission. She thought he should be her equal in business, like they were in marriage. Nikki walked in and heard Victoria say Ashland would be co-CEO. Nikki thought Ashland was happy as an advisor. Ashland said he was feeling better now, and he was ready to take a stronger hand here. Nikki thought Ashland already had a strong hand here – she’d seen the deference the employees treated him with. He said he needed the employees to respect him the same way they respected Victoria. Nikki asked if this was the right way to go about it. Victoria said it was the right thing to do, and it wouldn’t change Nikki’s role. Nikki made it clear that she already felt secure here. She was just surprised because Victor didn’t mention this. Victoria said they didn’t feel the need to tell him.

Nikki didn’t think that Victoria should do this without talking to Victor. Victoria said that this was her decision to make, and hers alone. Nikki said Victoria had done such an amazing job controlling the company Victor built from nothing, and he’d always been her strongest advisor, so the least she could do was let him know what she was planning. “You owe him that much,” Nikki said. Victoria guessed that was right. Nikki hoped Ashland wasn’t offended, she said that she wanted him to be around for a long time, because he made her daughter happy. Ashland acted like he was just fine with it and he said he wanted the blessing of all the Newmans. Nikki thought that was wise. She noted that Victor had been Ashland’s biggest defender, through all the crises they’d faced, so why would this be different. Ashland said this wasn’t a crisis, it was a celebration of his recovery. Ashland excused himself to attend to some things. Victoria asked Nikki why she was troubled. Nikki said she was fine, just tired. Victoria asked what was going on. Nikki was adamant that Victoria needed to talk to Victor. Victoria said she would. Nikki made it clear that she would tell Victor what was going on if Victoria didn’t. In the hallway, Ashland texted asking for an update on the doctor and asking where Michael was. Ashland then talked to a Dr. Reilly, who asked if Ashland had given anyone permission to look at his medical records. Ashland said no.

Victor was in the hallway of Newman Media when he received an update from Michael. Michael spoke with a second doctor at the clinic and learned something big. He was sending Victor evidence. Victor walked into the office, and Adam asked what was going on with Victoria and Ashland. Adam said he couldn’t help if Victor wouldn’t let him in on what was going on. Nick arrived, and Adam asked why he was there. Nick stated that Victor commanded him to come. Victor announced that he had some news that would change everything. It related to the Newman empire and the family. Nick thought Victoria should be here if it was about the family and the business. Adam said this was about Victoria and Ashland. Victor said they had to protect the family and Victoria. Nick asked why he was just hearing about this. Victor said he was waiting for confirmation from Michael, who was in Peru. Nick didn’t want anything to do with digging up dirt on Ashland. Victor said to trust him. Nick said the last time he trusted Victor and investigated Ashland, it hurt his relationship with Victoria, and it never recovered. He didn’t want to risk making it worse by going down that path again.

Adam asked if Nick wasn’t the least bit curious. Nick learned his lesson. Nick was surprised Victor was investigating Ashland, since he’d been Ashland’s biggest champion. Victor revealed that he’d never really trusted Ashland. Nick said he’d been left out of conversations about Ashland, and he asked why he was being included now. Victor learned things about Ashland that were shocking and repulsive and would affect the entire family. Victor said Ashland was using the clinic in Peru as a shell company. A doctor who used to work at the clinic testified that Ashland paid someone to falsify his medical records. Adam and Nick asked why Ashland would lie about being in remission and give Victoria false hope about how much time they had. Victor told his sons they were missing the point. Ashland was never sick at all.

Nick asked if Victor had proof Ashland faked his cancer, because they couldn’t destroy Victoria’s life on the word of a disgruntled employee. Victor Michael ran into another physician at the clinic who corroborated everything the first doctor said. Nick thought Victoria went to NY with Ashland, after his diagnosis, where he then received confirmation that he was terminally ill. Adam said Ashland got chemo in Genoa City. Victor said that was how nefarious and deep Ashland’s deception was. Adam said that meant the doctor in NY had to be in on it. Victor reminded everyone that Ashland never wanted anyone to go to his appointments with him. Adam noted that Ashland suddenly asked Nate to be his best man. He asked if Nate was in on the scam. Victor didn’t think Nate as involved. Adam asked what Victor was going to do. Victor said he had enough evidence to deal with Ashland.

Adam asked why Ashland would go to such extremes – did he do this to win over Victoria? Victor said it was far worse. He believed Ashland was playing a long con on Victoria to get power and control over Newman Enterprises and Locke Communications group. Adam asked why Ashland would resort to faking cancer, when he was almost as good at making deals as Victor. Victor said that the cancer made people feel sorry for Ashland – everyone fell for it, except Nick. Victor said he’d had his doubts from the beginning. Nick wasn’t happy he was right about Ashland. “He took advantage of Victoria’s love for his own greed and financial gain. I’m gonna kill him,” Nick said. Victor understood Nick’s anger, and he felt the same way. Victor said Ashland infiltrated their family and was threatening the empire Victor built. Nick said forget the empire, what about the damage to Victoria. Victor said they were part and parcel of the same thing. Victor thought they needed to tread carefully, because this would devastate Victoria. Adam didn’t know they’d do anything without upsetting Victoria. Victor said he’d handle this his way.

Billy arrived at the Abbott house at Jack’s request. Jack’s text said it was a family matter, so Billy asked why Phyllis was here. Phyllis said she was supporting Jack as a friend. Ashley couldn’t be there, so Jack was going to fill her and Kyle in as soon as he had more answers. Jack said it was about Keemo, and Billy asked if he was okay. Jack was afraid not. He explained that he’d gotten some mysterious texts encouraging him to go to an address in LA. Phyllis tried to help him get to the bottom of it, and they learned that the address was owned by Hao Nguyen. That was Keemo’s grandfather’s name, and that was also the name Keemo adopted for himself. They did some digging, and they learned Keemo died three weeks ago. Billy was sorry, and he asked if Keemo was ill. Jack revealed that he hadn’t heard from Keemo in years. Billy was surprised because every time he asked about Keemo, Jack had claimed he’d been in contact with him. Jack admitted he’d misled Billy. He rehashed the story about Keemo resenting him for hiding Luan’s illness. Even though Keemo and Jack made peace before Keemo left town, Keemo’s anger grew, and he cut Jack out. Jack had held onto hope that Keemo would come back to him, so Jack never told anyone about the breakdown of the relationship. Jack was leaving for LA later today. Billy assumed it was for the funeral, and he decided to go too. Jack didn’t know if there was going to be a funeral. All he had were the texts and the address, Keemo’s home, and that was where he was going to start. For Keemo’s sake, Jack was going to follow this wherever it lead.

Billy was sorry Jack felt the need to cover things up and paint this rosy picture for all of them. Jack said he also painted the rosy picture for himself, because it was less painful. Billy wanted to go to LA to support Jack. Jack didn’t want Billy to be involved, because he didn’t know what awaited him in LA. Billy thought that was all the more reason he should be there. Billy knew the pain Jack was going through, and he wanted to be there for Jack. Jack felt that he needed to do this alone. Traci was in agreement with Billy. She felt he’d kept his family at arm’s length for too long. She also wanted to go to LA. Billy thought he and Traci should both go with Jack. Phyllis thought she should go too. Traci said she and Billy both knew what it was like to lose a child. Jack was appreciative, but he didn’t want Traci or Billy to go, because he didn’t want his loss to compound theirs. Billy said that he and Traci could handle it, and they needed to be there for him.

Billy didn’t want Jack going anywhere alone. Jack accepted that and said he’d take Phyllis, because she’d been instrumental in this. Billy said Phyllis wasn’t family. “This is what I need to do. This is what is best for me,” Jack said, and he left the room to pack a bag. Phyllis knew Jack’s siblings were upset he chose her, but she said that she had his best interests at heart. Traci knew how much Phyllis cared about Jack, but she also knew Jack and Phyllis’ relationship had been on tenuous ground for months now. Traci asked if Phyllis could please set that aside while Jack grieved. Phyllis understood that Jack was fragile. She thought that it would help him to get to the bottom of this mystery. She promised she’d take care of him. She left to pack for the trip.

Traci and Billy felt bad that Jack had been suffering alone for all this time. She knew it must’ve been devastating for him to live with the secret that Keemo cut contact. In hindsight, Billy realized that Jack had been almost too quick to answer questions about Keemo, like he was shutting down the conversation. Traci felt terrible because she didn’t notice Jack was hiding something. As a writer, she was obsessed with language and the use of words, so why didn’t she notice Jack was being perfectly vague? Billy said all they could do now was be there for Jack. Traci said they both knew the hell that was headed Jack’s way, and it was going to hit him hard. Billy wanted to know more about the text messages. Traci said this unidentified person was telling Jack that he should come to LA, where he’d find a world that he never knew existed and that he’d be sorry if he didn’t come. Billy didn’t like this. Traci agreed, but she said Phyllis had been pushing Jack to pursue this. Billy thought taking Phyllis was a bad idea – she was Phyllis, and trouble followed her. Traci didn’t know that they could change Jack’s mind. She felt helpless, but she decided the one thing she could do was go get some food for Jack’s trip. Billy said he’d stay at the house, so Jack wouldn’t be alone. Shortly after Traci left, Jack came downstairs.

Brother to brother, Billy asked if Jack was sure about this. Jack said he could handle the trip. Billy noted that Jack didn’t know what he was walking into. Jack needed answers about these last years of his son’s life, for closure. Billy didn’t think you could get closure after the death of a child. Billy understood Jack needed answers, and he hoped he found him. Billy said if Jack needed him, he’d get on the next flight. Jack knew he could always count on Billy. Billy wanted Jack to be careful and to make sure Phyllis had his best interests at heart, not her own. Jack trusted Phyllis implicitly, she’d proven time and again that she had his back, and that was why he was taking her with him.

Traci went to the hotel to see Phyllis. A guarded Phyllis said she wasn’t going to let Traci talk her out of accompanying Jack on this trip. Traci actually came to say she was grateful Phyllis was going with Jack. Phyllis was surprised to hear that. Traci understood why Jack preferred to take Phyllis over his siblings. Traci said she and Billy had lost children, so they understood what it was like, but Jack was on the edge. She thought the wall he’d built around his feelings for Keemo could come crashing down at any moment. She thought he sensed that and he was terrified. Traci believed that, on some level, Jack knew he wouldn’t be able to handle it if this situation reignited Traci and Billy’s grief over losing Colleen and Delia. Traci said Jack needed his reserves for what he was going to face, and as much as she wanted to be there for Jack, she though it was better if he didn’t have to worry about her feelings and could focus on his own. Phyllis thought it was nice of Traci to look out for her brother. Traci was counting on Phyllis to give Jack what he needed. Traci knew there was a mystery to be solved, and she said Jack couldn’t have picked a better partner to help him get to the bottom of it. However, first and foremost, Traci wanted Phyllis to take care of Jack and protect his big heart.

Traci and Phyllis went back to the house. Traci gave Jack some food for the trip and told him to keep in touch. He said a lot would be going on, so he might not be great at phone calls. Phyllis said she’d keep Traci updated. Billy told Jack to stay on guard. Jack said he wanted to find out the truth about the texts, and even if he didn’t get closure, he wanted to find out more about the man his son became. Phyllis and Jack left.

Young & The Restless Update

Y&R logo

Recap written by Christine

Devon and Amanda kissed each other good morning. She was off to a meeting with Lily and Billy. Devon said he was meeting with Lily today too. He wasn’t sure what his sister wanted to discuss, but she’d sounded excited when she called. Devon got a text from Abby letting him know how well Dom was doing. Devon replied thanking Abby for the update and saying he was going to visit later. Amanda knew it had been hard for Devon to put on a brave front. Devon wanted the baby to spend at least a couple of days at the penthouse once the doctor said it was okay for him to travel. Amanda thought Devon had been more than reasonable suspending the custody agreement while Dom was sick. She thought it was time to get back to normal footing. He said it was incredible to think about how much Dom had gone through in his young life. He asked what she thought about Dom coming to stay a little more often. He knew she was starting a demanding job, so he asked if that was asking too much. She said she’d supported him getting shared custody, and she was willing to fight to make sure it happened, so no one understood better than her how much family meant to him. She always knew he’d want to spend every minute building a life for Dom, and that was what she wanted for him and for Dom.

Imani came over, and Devon asked if she was coming to the meeting. Imani came to strategize with Amanda about how they’d step in as Chancellor’s legal counsel. She didn’t know anything about a meeting. Devon thought that Lily wanted to talk to him about the podcasts they were starting. Amanda said Lily asked her to tag along as legal counsel. She promised to fill Imani in later. Even though Imani was just associate counsel, she thought it’d make sense for her to go too. Amanda didn’t think that was necessary. Imani said she could bring another set of eyes and ears to the meeting, and she wanted to get a sense of how Lily functioned in a work environment. Amanda accepted this, and they all left.

Billy was in a bedroom at his condo trying to record the first episode of his podcast. It got off to a rough start, due to nerves and inexperience. Once things seemed to be progressing, Billy realized that he forgot to press record, and he called himself a dumb-ass. He started again, and he couldn’t get the hang of what he wanted to say. He started to feel like the podcast was a waste of time and as if he didn’t have anything insightful to say.

Lily was on a video chat with Jill. She said she invited Devon and Amanda over to discuss Lily’s proposal. Jill said that Lily had exceeded her expectations in every way, and if she could make this proposal happen, it’d be a game changer for Chancellor Industries. Jill’s support was meaningful to Lily. Lily knew how huge this would be, if she could pull it off. Jill and Lily ended the call as Billy walked in and asked what was going on. Lily asked about the podcast. Billy told her how badly it went. He wasn’t sure he had anything worthwhile to say. She was sure he did, since she’d heard his recording. He said there was nothing flowing, and he was starting to wonder if he was a one hit wonder. She suggested he wait until after midnight to record. He was still feeling unsure about the whole thing. She gave him a pep talk and a kiss.

Lily told Billy about her proposal. He said no one would ever accuse her of thinking small. She hoped Devon would be excited. Billy thought it was an epic move, and he believed it said a lot about Lily that Jill gave her the go-ahead to do this. Lily said she didn’t tell Billy about this before, because she was concerned Jill would nix the idea. Lily had expected Billy to be wowed by her idea, and he wasn’t, and she asked why. He said he was, and she didn’t buy it. Before he could respond, Devon, Amanda and Imani arrived. Lily asked about Dominic, and she and Billy were pleased to hear he was doing well. They got to the point for the meeting. Lily said Devon’s acquisition of Mergeron was a big risk that paid off. She noted that Hamilton Winters was a much smaller company than Chancellor. She said Chancellor had resources that Devon could tap into to bring his company to a larger scale. Hamilton Winters could also open doors for Chancellor, because H-W generated a lot of content, and it had a younger demographic. Amanda thought the venture into podcasts was the best way to explore the reciprocal benefits. “Why stop there?,” Billy asked. Lily said Neil wanted her and Devon to work together, and they did for awhile, but it didn’t go as planned. She proposed bringing the companies together – Chancellor Winters.

Devon was caught off guard, and he wasn’t sure what to say. He asked if she really wanted to make such a big move right after becoming CEO. Lily stated that Jill loved the idea and said she regretted not thinking of it herself. Imani asked if the companies would remain autonomous or would it become a wholly defined entity, in which case how would they define their roles? Lily said they could work that out later. Imani felt that these critical issues needed to be considered up front. Amanda said this was just a preliminary discussion between Lily and Devon. Imani was going to object, and Amanda quieted Imani by reminding her that she was supposed to be the eyes and the ears.

Devon said he had total autonomy at Hamilton Winters. He loved the idea of working with Lily, which was why he agreed to do the podcast project. He thought they should focus on that and see how it went. Lily said she was talking about doing something on a much larger scale, with limitless possibilities. “Don’t forget, you’re a Chancellor too,” she added. Devon didn’t forget, but he didn’t know if this was the right move for him. His company was in a great place, and it took a long time to get there, and Dominic had health issues, and Devon didn’t feel like this was the time to make such a big change. Lily was disappointed, but she understood. Devon loved Lily and admired her for thinking outside the box. The guests began to leave, and Lily said to giver her nephew a hug for her. Once Lily was alone, she picked up Neil’s picture. She know how he’d feel about the merger and her wanting to come together with Devon. She promised she wouldn’t give up.

Billy was back upstairs recording his podcast. He said Lily was a rock star who came up with big ideas that change the world. One of the reasons he loved her was that she startled him in the best possible way. He said that her idea to merge Chancellor with her brother’s company was genius. He said Devon and Lily would run a powerhouse family enterprise, and that was Lily’s dream. “A dream that I don’t factor into because I’m not family in any meaningful sense. And so here I am on the outside looking in. Again. The story of my life,” Billy said.

Back at their place, Devon asked Amanda what he thought about Lily’s proposal. Amanda thought Devon raised good points about the timing. She said this was a big complicated deal, and it’d change a lot of things. He knew, and he noted that if he took this deal, he wouldn’t be the boss of his own company anymore. Amanda thought she could picture a plan that would let Lily and Billy share responsibilities while maintaining control of what they already did. She said this would be big, complicated and messy, but that was what families were like. She knew she didn’t have much experience with families, but she knew what he’d told her about Neil. When she thought about turning Chancellor Industries and Hamilton Winters into a cohesive family business, it sounded pretty wonderful to her.

At the Abbott house, Traci checked on Jack, who was adjusting to the loss of his son, Keemo. Jack was having a hard time wrapping his head around the fact that Keemo was gone and they’d never be able to make peace. He’d been going over the correspondence and documents going back to the time Christine and Paul sought Keemo out. When Jack first learned he’d had a son, it’d felt like a miracle. Jack thought about the last emails when Keemo said he wanted nothing to do with him, he didn’t want to be an Abbott, and he was changing his name to Nguyen. Phyllis came to check on Jack and asked if she could do anything for him. “Can you bring my son back?,” he blurted out. He apologized, and she told him it wasn’t necessary.

It was so hard when Keemo slammed the door on Jack. Jack had held out hope that Keemo would come back to him in time. It didn’t happen, and now Keemo was gone without Jack ever really getting the chance to be a father to him. He wasn’t sure how to grieve. Phyllis told Jack there was no rule book – he could feel how he felt. Traci said there was no timetable either. She likened the situation to their grief over Dina’s death. Jack said this was different because they knew Dina was ill, and they had time to prepare. Phyllis told Jack that no one would judge him for the situation with Keemo. She said that the blame, shame and regret wouldn’t help. He wasn’t sure anything would. He read the last email from Keemo again. Keemo didn’t want anything to do with Jack, because he was angry Jack hid Keemo’s mother’s illness.

Jack was almost in tears. Traci tried to commiserate because she knew what it was like to lose a child. Jack didn’t want to equate his loss to Traci’s. He noted that Traci shaped and raised Colleen, and they had a beautiful bond built for years. Jack, on the other hand, didn’t even know Keemo existed until he was an adult. Traci told Jack that everything was relative – he was grieving, and this was a tremendous loss. Phyllis said they had to find out who sent those text messages – who would want Jack to find out about Keemo this way, and who would send such creepy cryptic texts about something so personal.

Phyllis noted that one of the texts said “come to LA there’s something you’re missing.” She wondered why someone who wanted to tell Jack that his son was dead would use that tone. Jack said it could be someone who was a total sociopath. Phyllis said there was no evidence of that, but it was worth looking into. This piqued Traci’s writer’s imagination. Phyllis said this texter knew Hao Nguyen was Keemo Volien Abbott, and they also had Jack’s phone number. Traci was worried someone was trying to mess with Jack.

Phyllis thought there had to be more to this than someone wanting Jack to know about Keemo. She suggested that there was a mystery surrounding Keemo’s death. Jack pointed out that the obituary said it was a heart attack. Phyllis knew, but she suggested something happened in Keemo’s life that this person wanted Jack to know. Traci asked why this person wouldn’t just say what they wanted to say instead of sending these texts like it was a treasure hunt. She thought it was cruel. Jack said he had to do something, because he needed answers about Keemo’s life. Traci wanted Jack to take a step back. Jack responded to the text asking who this person was and why they were sending him this information.

Get to Los Angeles. The answers are there,” the person replied. Phyllis thought it was clear that Jack needed to go to L.A. but Traci didn’t agree. She thought some scammer was trying to take advantage of Jack’s grief. She said anyone with good intentions would identify themselves. She told him to let it go. Phyllis argued that Jack couldn’t let it go. If it were Phyllis getting these texts, she’d be on the first flight to LA. Traci said Jack wasn’t impulsive like Phyllis. Jack felt like he had to follow up on these texts even if they lead him nowhere. Traci was worried Jack would get hurt. He said his heart was already broken over Keemo. The questions weren’t going to go away, and if there were answers to be had, he was going to find them.

Recap written by Christine

Amanda was supportive when Devon said he wanted Dominic to spend more time at the penthouse. Billy had trouble coming up with material for his podcast. With Jill’s approval, Lily suggested that she and Devon merge Chancellor Industries and Hamilton Winters. Devon wasn’t ready to do something like that. Imani talked Amanda into bringing her along to the meeting with Lily, Devon, Billy and Amanda. Imani ruffled Amanda’s feathers when she spoke out of turn at the meeting. Lily told Neil she wasn’t giving up her plan to merge the companies. Billy thought to himself that Lily’s idea was genius, but if she and Devon were running a powerhouse family business, Billy would be on the outside looking in, because he wasn’t family.

Traci and Phyllis were there for Jack, as he worked through his feelings surrounding the death of his estranged son, Keemo. Phyllis thought Jack needed to go to LA and figure out who was sending him those cryptic texts and how this person was connected to Keemo. Traci didn’t want Jack to go, because she was worried this was a scammer. Jack decided that he wanted to seek answers. He sent a text to the mysterious person, and they told him again to come to LA. Victor: I would like you to smooth things over with Adam, alright? Not only in Newman/Locke’s best interest, but in yours, as well, to make sure that the merger with ChanceCom goes smoothly.

Victoria: So, what should i do, dad? Should I tie him to a chair? Lock him in the office? What?

Victor: Try to make him feel welcome and appreciated and respected.

Victoria: Oh, I see. So, you want me to stroke his fragile ego.

Victor: My darling, let me teach you a little lesson. As CEO, you need to be able to deal with the entire executive staff, even with people who disagree with you, alright? And you tell Ashland about that, as well.

*****************

Victoria: What are you suggesting?

Ashland: I’m suggesting that we change my title. Now, advisor made sense when we were first merging the companies. There was little hope then that I could do anything else.

Victoria: Honestly, Ashland, does it really matter what your title is? We’re both — we’re both running this company.

Ashland: It will matter to other people, especially when I start taking on more responsibility. Don’t you see that? That’s why I was so upset on the phone before — because that was the legal department. They were giving me a hard time about — about making a small change on a relatively unimportant matter.

Victoria: Well, who are you dealing with? I will call them, and I will explain the situation.

Ashland: No, no, no. I really don’t want you to do that. I need to be respected on my own right, in this building and out there in the world. And that’s what a title does. It will also send a message that I’m not some sickly old man on his way out.

Victoria: Oh, come on. I think you’re making a big deal out of a very small issue. It’s obvious that you’re the strong, smart businessman that you’ve always been.

Ashland: No. That reputation you just described — I lost that because of the illness. I need to get that back if I’m gonna operate at full capacity. I am proposing that we change my title to co-CEO. Now, we can have a provision in there in case something goes wrong, if my condition changes and I need to step back or, God forbid, step out entirely. But this makes sense. What do you think? Do you have a problem with sharing the work? Do you have a problem with sharing the title?

Billy: Hey, there. Mind if I join you?

Ashland: You are free to sit wherever you like.

Billy: [ Groans ] So what’s on the agenda for this beautiful day?

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

Billy: Uh-oh, are you having a hard time trying to figure out what to eat for breakfast? You look like a villain in a superhero movie, planning world domination. Or maybe you’re just plotting your next move at Newman/Locke.

Ashland: “Plotting”? Well, that sounds a lot like an accusation.

Billy: Well, I hear your medical situation is improving. Congratulations on that. But I got to believe that you’re trying to figure out what to do next with this future that you didn’t expect to have, and I’m a bit of a betting man, but I’m gonna say that you are itching to get a lot more control out of your wife’s company. Get a lot more Locke in Newman/Locke

*************************

Billy: I don’t think I would call them baseless, Ashland. In fact, I’m gonna give you a little bit of credit. You built an empire that you basically ran by yourself for a number of years, so I just find it hard to believe that you’re gonna simply be an advisor to your wife. And don’t get me wrong, okay? Don’t start talking about how marriage is sacrifice and all that kind of stuff, because I do believe that’s true for a lot of people, but not for the Locke-ness monster. No, no, you have way too much to say. How is work going, by the way? It’s good? I know you like to flip coins. Is that how you decide who handles what division?

Ashland: We’re handling things just fine, thank you.

Billy: I’m sure that’s what you want Victoria to think. You know, she has waited her entire life to get control of Newman. And you just threw a big, old wrench into her plans by sticking around longer than she expected. I’m sure that makes for interesting dinner talk.

Ashland: [ Laughs ] I’m guessing you think you’re going to shock me with your macabre sense of humor, but you know something? A guy like me doesn’t reach the heights I have while maintaining some kind of delicate sensibility. I will say this, though. I think I understand why you have such a bitter view of marriage, given your sordid history.

Victor: Alright. Goodbye.

Victoria: What is this all about?

Victor: I had a meeting with adam today, and it seems that he has second thoughts about staying on at newman.

Victoria: Well, what can i say? I did as you asked. I offered to keep him on as the head of the division, but i can’t force him to stay. And I certainly don’t want a top executive who’s not happy and not fully committed.

Victor: I would like you to smooth things over with adam, alright? Not only in newman/locke’s best interest, but in yours, as well, to make sure that the merger with chanccomm goes smoothly.

Victoria: Ashland? Well, where’s this coming from?

Victor: It seems he let adam know in no uncertain terms that he would keep him on a short leash and, if adam didn’t like it, he could quit, he could walk.

Victoria: I’m sure that ashland was just setting some boundaries.

Victor: No one sets boundaries on my children. Do you got that? Not ashland locke, not anyone but me! Now, antagonizing adam is not a good idea, is it? Why the hell would he do that? Did he do that unilaterally, or were you part of it?

Sally: You have gone radio silent.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Sorry. I’m just thinking about the conversation I had with my father earlier. I keep replaying it in my head, wondering if I went too far.

Sally: Should I be doing the work on the chanccomm strategies we discussed for when the merger is finalized? Or are you still considering leaving newman media altogether?

[ Knock on door ]

Phyllis: Hey.

Jack: I wasn’t expecting you. Come on in.

Phyllis: Oh, okay. Um, I just want to see how you were doing.

Jack: Oh, I’ve been going over the last e-mails I got from keemo, hoping for, what, a clue?

Phyllis: Yeah. I mean, if you want any help finding out who’s sending the texts or even just someone to talk to, I just want you to know that I’m here.

Abby: Well, it looks like we all made it through the night.

Devon: The important thing is dominic made it through the night, and the nurse said that he slept peacefully.

Chance: Well, that’s a — that’s a relief. Dr. Alston said these first couple days were pretty critical.

Abby: That’s when the potential for infection and complications is the highest.

Devon: Well, I’m glad the doctor’s coming by to check on him then.

Abby: It makes me feel a little bit better that he can go through all of this in the comfort of his own home, in his own crib, surrounded by all of our love.

Devon: Yeah. We’re lucky that we had the resources to prepare both of his nurseries with the right air filters and to hire a private nurse.

Abby: Oh, yeah.

Chance: Excuse us. Hey, man, I, uh — I just wanted to let you know that I’m gonna cover the cost for the medical transport when the doctors say it’s okay for him to go over to your place. I, uh — I know you’re gonna want him over there as soon as possible.

Devon: Yeah, I appreciate that. You don’t have to do that, though.

Chance: No. I want to. It’s not about the money, and, you know, we’re in this together. You were able to give dominic that amazing gift by being able to donate, so it’s the — it’s the least I can do, right?

Devon: Yeah, but I mean you know that’s all about biology.

Chance: I know. I see how much you love our son and that you’d do anything for him. I’m really grateful for that. I am. And I hope you know I’m gonna do the same.

[ Knock on door ]

Devon: Of course.

Chance: Hey. Come on in.

Abby: Dr. Alston. Nate. Thank you so much for coming by. Dominic is up in his nursery if you want to head up there. We are so eager to make sure his recovery is going according to plan.

Nate: We’ll let you know soon.

Abby: Thank you. Hi, I’m karen.

provided by… doesn’t your family deserve the best?

Victoria: I can only imagine how adam characterized his conversation with my husband. And, yes, I was very aware of it. I showed up in the middle, and i heard more than enough.

Victor: So, are you denying that ashland reined in adam’s authority at every turn?

Victoria: Adam was testing his boundaries, and ashland let him know exactly what those boundaries would be. Adam would have autonomy within reason, but ultimately he would answer to ashland and me. And as far as adam being micro-managed, I signed off on his first major decision since the acquisition was announced.

Victor: You mean hiring that woman as coo — spectra.

Victoria: A very questionable decision, at best. So, what is the problem, dad?

Victor: The problem is that ashland is showing a degree of disrespect for adam that I don’t like.

Victoria: And that surprises you?

Victor: Have you forgotten that adam prevented your wedding from blowing up, that, although you had differences, he came to your side? He helped you and your husband have a great wedding in tuscany. Have you forgotten that?

Victoria: That doesn’t justify giving adam a free pass. And, yes, I am very happy that my wedding wasn’t derailed, but we both know why he did that. He did that because he wanted to prove his loyalty to you. And he was duly rewarded for that. I did as you asked. I kept him on as head of the division. Which, by the way, will be a much larger division once this merger goes through. But adam had to go crying back to daddy because his little feelings were hurt.

Victor: That’s not what happened.

Victoria: Honestly, dad, I know that my brother’s trying to stir up trouble.

Victor: Where’d you hear that?

Victoria: I don’t have to hear it. I know it. Now that he’s gonna be back at newman media, he’s probably looking around, remembering when he ran the whole place. He’s probably getting the itch again. I mean, it is adam that we’re talking about here. People wouldn’t be very surprised, would they?

Victor: I want you to smooth things over with adam, alright? Don’t you look for trouble where there is none. Make this work. For the good of the company, i want you to make your brother feel welcome.

Adam: Do you remember when we were talking in bed yesterday? I, uh — I found myself opening up to you about my father. And, surprisingly, you said all the things that I was feeling but I couldn’t quite articulate. That my dad asking me to spy on ashland undermined everything that I was trying to accomplish, as if my position there was contingent on me doing his bidding and not on the merit.

Sally: Yeah, as far as I’m concerned, he was way out of line.

Adam: Well, lying there with you and seeing it clearly through your eyes, I was filled with this — this righteous anger. I mean, the way that you nailed it, it made me realize all the things that I wanted to say to my father — and i did say to him.

Sally: And now you’re wondering if I steered you in an entirely wrong direction? Do you feel like I led you to do and say things that you now regret?

Adam: [ Sighs ]

Chance: Look, I know you’re worried about dominic, and trust me — I am worried, too. And I hate that I haven’t been fully there for him while I’m dealing with everything that I’m dealing with. And I’m done trying to convince myself that I can manage this all by myself because I can’T.

Abby: It just took you some time to realize that you need professional help. But now that you’ve made the decision, you’re gonna get it.

Chance: [ Sighs ] I just pray to god that our little boy’s okay.

Devon: He’s gonna be okay. He has to be.

Amanda: Listen to me. That boy is a fighter. Okay? Just like his dad. And he has been from the very moment he was born. And now he has a part of you inside of him, helping him fight this blood disorder, okay?

Devon: I just hope it’s enough.

Nate: [ Sighs ] You can relax. It’s good news.

Abby: [ Exhales heavily ]

Dr. Alston: Dominic is doing extremely well. His vitals are stable, no sign of infection. I’ve taken a few cultures to be sure, but he’s gonna make it through this just fine.

Abby: [ Laughs ]

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Abby: [ Sighs, laughs ]

Devon: Ah. [ Chuckles ]

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Devon: Ah.

Jack: “How many times do i have to tell you to leave me alone? I don’t want anything more to do with you. I will never forgive you for hiding my mother’s illness from me. You are nothing to me.”

[ Tablet thuds ]

Phyllis: You know that’s just his pain and loss. That’s just his way of lashing out at you.

Jack: I’ve reached out to him so many different times in so many ways. He never responded.

Phyllis: Listen, I know you rejected this idea before, but, I mean, don’t you think there’s a chance that it might be keemo sending these texts? You know, maybe he wants to make amends, he wants to reconnect with you in some sort of way. I mean, if it is him… don’t you want to find out?

Jack: I’m almost afraid to hope. But, yeah. God, yeah, I want to know.

Dr. Alston: I’ve shared all this information with the nurse. We’ll be checking for any signs of infection. And of course we’ll also be on the lookout for side effects and other problems that might arise. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call.

Abby: [ Sighs ] I’m sure i will have a million, but right now I’m just feeling thankful and relieved.

Devon: Yeah. I know we all are. Thank you very much, dr. Alston.

Chance: Yeah, we really appreciate everything you’ve done for dom.

Abby: Oh, my god.

Chance: [ Chuckles ]

Abby: Can you believe it? I mean, she said he’s doing extremely well, right?

Devon: Yeah, yeah, she did say it. Let’s go see him.

Chance: Absolutely. Come on.

Nate: Whoa, whoa, whoa, hey. Remember, you have to be very careful of the potential for infection, especially this early in dominic’s recovery. You need to take every precaution when you’re in that room. And limit your visits, okay?

Abby: Right. We understand. Thank you.

Chance: Okay, well, uh, why don’t you go first, mom?

Nate: I got to say, you all make quite the team, the way you came together when you heard the news, three parents working together for the welfare of their child. That’s a beautiful thing.

[ Door opens ]

Nikki: Hi, darling.

Victor: Hi, sweetheart.

Nikki: I was going to ask you to join me for a bite, but it doesn’t seem like you’re in the mood. What’s going on? Was it your conversation with victoria? I just saw her leaving.

Victor: Yeah, I just heard some rather alarming news before victoria arrived… about ashland locke.

Nikki: Oh, victor, come on! You are digging into that poor man’s life again?

Victor: Sweetheart, i wouldn’t do so if I wasn’t given reason, okay?

Nikki: I just don’t understand. So he contributed to a clinic that developed a treatment that could extend his life. What is so alarming about that?

Victor: Fasten your seatbelt.

Nikki: Alright. What is it?

Victor: Michael baldwin just sent me an interview with a peruvian doctor who testified that ashland locke paid a substantial amount of money to have his medical record falsified. He didn’t have cancer.

Ashland: What is going on down there? Well, I don’t care. Just find that damn doctor before he does any more damage. No — how in the hell could you allow this to happen?

Victoria: Allow what to happen? If you have copd, ask your doctor about breztri.

Elena: So, you both ended up staying over at abby and chance’s?

Devon: Yeah. We didn’t sleep very much, though. We just stayed up all night listening for that baby monitor.

Amanda: I don’t think we would have gotten any sleep, even if we did go home.

Nate: You should have seen their tired and nervous faces when dr. Alston and I got there.

Devon: I had never been so worried.

Nate: Yeah, but you should have seen the relief when we delivered the good news about how well the baby was doing.

Elena: Well, that’s what i like to hear. That little boy is the luckiest kid in the world. Three parents who are so committed to his well-being? Dominic must feel nothing but love.

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Sharon: Hello?

Chance: Hey, sharon.

Sharon: Oh, I was hoping to hear from you, chance.

Chance: Yeah. I just wanted to follow up and see if we can meet and talk about finding me a therapist. You know, I was hoping that we could do it today if you have time.

Sharon: Oh, are you sure you want to do it today? I’ve heard that you had a few rough days.

Chance: Yeah, I need to do this right away…for my family and, uh, for my son.

Devon: Hey, nate, I want to say thank you again for having that specialist make a house call ’cause I know how busy the two of you are. So, I appreciate it.

Nate: I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Devon: Well, it’s nice having a doctor in the family.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] I, uh — I guess this is a good time as any to break the news?

Devon: About what?

Nate: Well, I know this may come as a shock, but, um, I’m making a major life and career change. After a lot of soul-searching and long discussions with elena, I’ve decided to leave medicine and go into the business world.

Ashland: There’s a problem with the contract language in the newman media acquisition. It’s nothing for you to worry about. I’m handling it.

Victoria: I worry about every aspect of newman/locke, especially when it comes to this deal.

Ashland: Yes, and that’s one of the things I love about you and that’s one of the things that makes you a force to be reckoned with, but this is a small matter for the business affairs people. It’s, uh — it’s, uh, not a thing. I’m on top of it.

Victoria: You know, I could have looked it over.

Ashland: Really, this is minor. It’s not worth distracting you from the real job you have, you know, of running the entire company.

Victoria: Alright. If you say so, but you sounded awfully heated on the phone. It sounded like it was a much bigger deal than you’re making it out to be now.

Ashland: It’s just a carrot-and-stick kind of thing. You know, sometimes people need to be shaken out of their complacency.

Victoria: Right.

Ashland: Mm. Look, I can show you the language that I’m upset about. I mean, if you want to see it, i could just make a phone call.

Victoria: No, no, of course not, no. I just thought if there was a problem, maybe I could help you with it. But in that case, I’m sure you would let me know.

Ashland: That’s what partners do.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Yes. Uh, anyway, I came to get my tablet. Don’t forget we have that meeting with the chanccomm marketing team about the merger.

Ashland: Yeah. Uh, hold on for one second. There is something we need to address.

Adam: No, you completely misunderstood. Your advice was spot on. And once again, you have proven that you do have great instincts.

Sally: Do you really mean that?

Adam: Look, don’t ever stop listening to that inner voice. You got me thinking. Walking away from newman media gets me nothing. Nothing. It only further feeds into the narrative that I am impulsive and I am reckless…

Sally: Well, it’s not always the worst qualities.

Adam: …And I shouldn’t be taken seriously.

Sally: That would be a mistake.

Adam: Mm-hmm. I mean, look, victoria and ashland — they only agreed to my staying on because it’s biding them time. It’s pretty clear when the merger goes through, they’re gonna do everything they can to push me aside. So I’m not gonna sit around and wait for them to make their move. I’m gonna make my move first. I’m gonna go on the offensive, and I’m gonna make them fail. And I’m not gonna feel bad about it because I’m pretty sure that they’re trying to do the same thing to me.

Sally: Downright machiavellian.

Adam: I am gonna tell my father that I’m gonna stay on and I’m gonna keep an eye on ashland, but I am not gonna do it for his sake. I am gonna do it for my own.

Two households.

“The young and the restless”

will continue. Up at 2:00am again?

Phyllis: Wow. Look at this. Hao nguyen owned a lot more properties besides this one that you were given.

Jack: How do you know it’s the same person?

Phyllis: I don’T. I did some cross-referencing. It’s just my guess.

[ Keys clacking ]

Jack: Oh, no.

Phyllis: What? Did you find something?

Jack: An obituary.

Phyllis: Uh, okay. Well, you said that your father-in-law died years ago.

Jack: Keemo e-mailed me that he would be taking his mother’s maiden name — nguyen. You think it’s possible he took his grandfather’s given name, hao? You think the hao nguyen we’re talking about here is my son?

Phyllis: Listen, don’t jump to conclusions, okay? Don’t do that. Okay, this obituary — I got it. I got it. Thank you. It’s so generic. I mean, it’s a very common name. There are no survivors.

Jack: Look at the date of birth. It’s the same year keemo was born. Oh, god. It says he died three weeks ago in los angeles.

Phyllis: Yeah, that’s where the texts are coming from.

Jack: Why else would someone reach out to me? Why else would somebody let me go down that path unless —

Phyllis: It could just be a coincidence, jack.

Jack: Oh, god, I want to believe that.

Phyllis: Listen. I’m gonna get all the information I can, and we’re gonna find out one way or the other, okay?

Jack: Okay.

Devon: So, when did you make this decision? ‘Cause didn’t you just become chief of surgery?

Amanda: Yeah, doctor turned businessman? Are you sure you want to do this?

Nate: Okay, let me explain. Being a surgeon was my passion. Being on the administrative side of things, not so much. Turns out dealing with all the bureaucracy is just not appealing. And, look, this is a good thing. You know, my life didn’t turn out exactly the way I planned, but that’s life, you know? And instead of just going along and accepting that this is as good as it gets for me, I’m making a change.

Amanda: But the business world, corporate america?

Devon: What prompted the whole thing?

Nate: Ashland locke.

Nikki: How reliable do you think this doctor’s word is? I mean, that ashland would pay the man to alter his medical records? It just seems so far-fetched.

Victor: Sweetheart, michael baldwin was a prosecutor, one of the sharpest legal minds around. He found the testimony credible.

Nikki: Yeah, but, I mean, who knows? This guy doesn’t even work there anymore probably. He could just be a disgruntled employee looking for money or attention or both.

Victor: I have considered all of that, okay? Let me just say that michael is continuing to investigate.

Nikki: I still don’t understand why ashland would lie about his recovery. To what end?

Ashland: When we decided to merge our companies, I was — I was fixated on cementing my legacy. My illness, the treatment I was undergoing made it impossible for me to make any significant contribution here. I couldn’t be a real partner to you.

Victoria: Well, I knew all that, and I encouraged you to leave it to me so that you could focus on getting better.

Ashland: Yes, and I so much appreciated that, but now, because of the treatment, I feel so much stronger. See, I’m ready to immerse myself in everything we’re accomplishing here. We are building something magnificent. We’re building a powerhouse right now!

Victoria: It’s very exciting.

Ashland: It’s very exciting! Yes! And I’ve been trying to carve out for myself a place where i can make more a contribution. I think you’ve been aware of that. But — but we’ve never really had a chance to discuss it in detail. This is all new for both of us. Both of us have been used to be being the heads of our own corporations, right?

Victoria: Yes. You’re right. The dynamic has changed. So, um, what are you saying?

Ashland: I’m saying that I’ve been — I’ve been running companies my entire life. It’s second nature to me. It’s an automatic reflex. But here — here, because of my illness, all I could be is an advisor, an advisory role. That’s why we set it up that way, with you as ceo and me as an advisor.

Victoria: And now you’re rethinking that?

Ashland: Victoria, this was our dream. And here we are. We’re in love. We have a close personal relationship with each other. And we are working side by side in a company that we created that bears both our names… as equals. What can I du with less asthma?

Chance: Thank you for coming by so quickly. I really appreciate it.

Sharon: Oh, yeah, of course. How’s dominic?

Abby: His recovery is going well. He’s exhausted, but the doctors are pleased with his progress.

Sharon: Oh, you must be so relieved. I know how scary it is when you have a child that’s sick.

Chance: Yeah, well, uh, he needs me to be more of father than I have been lately.

Abby: We just — we really need your guidance on this and someone for chance to talk to. And I understand why you think it should be someone else since you’re so close to the situation.

Sharon: Well, I made a list for you together, a nice list of very good therapists. Um, I think they’ll be a good match, but I’ve put my first choices at the top.

Chance: Okay.

[ Sighs ]

I need to get that back if I’m gonna operate a full capacity. I am proposing that we change my title to co-ceo. Now, we can have a provision in there in case something goes wrong, if my conditions changes and I need to step back or, god forbid, step out entirely. But this makes sense. What do you think? Do you have a problem with sharing the work? Do you have a problem with sharing the title?

Victoria: No. I’m not thinking of either of those things.

Ashland: Then I can tell that you’re hesitant. What — what is it?

Victoria: I’m really, really worried that it might worsen your condition.

Victor: Why would ashland locke lie about his recovery? My gut tells me it’s about much more than wanting to protect our daughter.

Nikki: Victor you don’t even know if you can believe the man on this video. Now, I’m not gonna have you alienating victoria by stirring up trouble in her marriage, especially when we don’t even know if this is true.

Victor: Sweetheart, don’t you worry. I’m gonna handle all this with extreme caution for victoria’s sake, alright?

Adam: Hello, nikki.

Victor: Hey, son.

Adam: Dad. Hope I’m not interrupting anything. But I wanted to let you know that I’ve done a lot of thinking since we last spoke.

Victor: So have I, son. Gordan ramsey

Jack: Wait, wait, wait. Stop there. Go back. It’s a memorial website. It’s keemo’s photo. Oh, dear god, my son is dead.

[ Breathing heavily ]

Sharon: I know the idea of talking to someone about these very personal things can feel daunting.

Chance: I guess I just don’t know what I’d say, what there even is to say. I, um… I just don’t think I have it in me, you know, whatever it is a parent’s supposed to feel. Abby’s got it. Devon has it. And I just don’t think I do.

Sharon: Listen, chance, i admire you for wanting to be a better father and a better husband. Trust me when I say these things can and will happen. First and foremost, you have to do this for yourself, and you’ve taken the first step. You know, wanting to get help — that’s a sign of strength. Don’t ever forget that.

Abby: Well, thank you for those words. I think we both really needed to hear them.

Sharon: Sure. Um, anytime you need anything, just call me. I’m happy to help. Good luck with the list.

Chance: Thank you.

Abby: Thank you so much. I’m so grateful for your help.

Sharon: Let me know how it goes.

Abby: Yeah.

Chance: Hi. Uh, this is chance chancellor. I was, um, referred to you by sharon rosales. Yes, I was hoping I could make an appointment with you. As soon as possible. Yeah, that’s, uh — that’s great. That’s perfect. Thank you. Look forward to it.

Nate: Ashland and I just kind of hit it off. It all started with me helping him through a bad moment with his illness and took off from there.

Amanda: Literally. I mean, the man did fly you and elena on his private jet to tuscany for his wedding.

Elena: Who wouldn’t hit it off with a guy like that, right?

Nate: [ Laughs ] Very funny. Listen, I know we are the unlikeliest of friends. We definitely have completely different perspectives and life experiences.

Devon: Yeah, you think?

Nate: I kind of have joked about the insufferable aspects of my new job. Ashland took it seriously. He sensed my dissatisfaction ran deep, so when he offered me the job, I thought he was joking, so I just dismissed it. But he never gave up. And he finally convinced me that, uh, making this move could be an exciting new challenge.

Elena: And I think so, too. I’m really happy for nate, and i support him 100%.

Devon: Yeah, I do, too, man. I’m just surprised that you didn’t want to come and work at hamilton-winters since neil already put on you the board. You could be a part of the family business.

Elena: Geez, nate. For someone with no experience in business, you sure are awash in offers.

Nate: Lily also offered me the opportunity to work with her at chancellor industries.

Devon: Is that right? Well, you’re just the man of the hour, aren’t you?

Nate: [ Laughs ] Listen, devon, I appreciate the offer, but, um, ashland got this ball rolling, so I feel like working with him is the best move for me.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] But i want you to understand something right now. This isn’t coming from anywhere other than my pure concern for your health. I mean, I have been going through all of this with you, and I’ve seen you. I’ve seen you trying to present this strong front to the world. And I’ve seen the toll that the chemo’s taken on you, and… I just don’t want you to push yourself too hard, that’s all. Why would we risk undoing all of the progress that we’ve made?

Ashland: Yeah. I know this has been hard on you, the fear, the worry. But I need you to understand something. Although I’m optimistic about my condition… I know the reality. I don’t believe for one second I’ve been magically cured. But I feel better now than i have in a very long time. And I want to live what’s left of my life — of our life — to the fullest extent.

Victoria: But I want you to stay healthy. Can you not understand that?

Ashland: I think it’s the work that’s making me feel better. When I have purpose, I feel more like myself. I feel stronger. I feel in control. I feel like there’s something else here, though. There’s some other thing that you’re hesitant about. What is it?

Victoria: Well, I guess you’re right. I mean, since you’re being honest, I need to be honest, too. This is about my title. I’m sorry. I guess it’s because my father put it in my head that I need to be on my guard because you’re getting better and stronger, as if you might be some kind of threat to me or the company.

[ Sighs ]

Ashland: He’s wrong about that.

Victoria: I know that, and I’m not going to pay any attention to what my father has to say about that.

[ Sighs ] I do want to be partners with you, in every way possible. I do. So…let’s do this. Let’s make it official. I am gonna have the contracts drawn up right away. Okay?

Ashland: Okay.

Victoria: But don’t get me wrong. I am still very concerned about your health. But I’m sorry I hesitated. I love you.

Ashland: I love you. And this is going to be the beginning of something very exciting.

Victoria: Yes.

Adam: I’m here to apologize, dad. I was thinking about what you said earlier. And you were right. It was hubris talking. I wasn’t thinking about family or company, loyalty. I was thinking about myself and trying to make a point and being right. You’ve given me a great opportunity, and I’m gonna make the most of it. So I’ve decided to stay on at newman media.

Victor: Glad to hear that. Have you spoken to victoria lately?

Adam: No, I haven’t seen or spoke to her today. Why? Don’t tell me that you tried to pressure her to smooth the waters over with me.

Victor: Son… all I want… is to protect my family… bring us all together.

Adam: Just so you know, I’m not gonna spy on ashland for you.

Victor: You no longer need to do that. Let me just say that things are going on at newman/locke that I’m observing very closely.

Adam: I assume this refers to what you mentioned earlier about ashland? Is there something going on with him?

Victor: I’ve even more reason to believe that I am right. But the most important thing is that I can count on you.

Adam: Absolutely.

Victor: Because, son… all hell is about to break loose.

Recap written by Christine

Phyllis visited Jack at the Abbott mansion. He was scouring his last emails from Keemo for clues. Phyllis let Jack know she was there for him. He read an email from his son aloud. “How many times do I have to tell you to leave me alone? I don’t want anything more to do with you. I will never forgive you for hiding my mother’s illness from me. You are nothing to me.” Phyllis said Keemo was just speaking in out of pain and loss. Jack said he reached out to Keemo so many times and never got a response. Phyllis suggested that Keemo was sending these texts hoping to make amends. Jack was afraid to hope, but he wanted to know if this was Keemo.

Phyllis did some searching, and she saw that Hao Nguyen owned a lot more properties than the one in the text Jack got. He asked how she knew it was the same person. She didn’t, but she’d done some cross referencing, and she thought it was. Jack was also online searching, and he was alarmed to run across an obituary for Hao Nguyen. Phyllis wasn’t surprised, since Jack said his father in law had died a long time ago. Jack pointed out that Keemo had taken his mother’s maiden name. Maybe Keemo also adopted his grandfather’s first name. Jack was worried that this was an obituary for his son.

Phyllis didn’t want Jack jumping to conclusions. She said it was a generic obituary, a common name, and there were no survivors listed. Jack noticed that the birth year was the same as Keemo’s, and it said this man died of a heart attack three weeks ago. That was the same time the texts started coming in. Phyllis said it could be a coincidence. Jack was panicking, but he wanted to believe Phyllis was right. Phyllis assured him that she’d get the information. Phyllis kept searching websites. She scrolled through a memorial site, and Jack spotted Keemo’s photo on it. His eyes filed with tears.

In the Grand Phoenix suite, Adam still wasn’t sure if he’d gone too far with Victor. Sally asked if she should continue to work on the merger or if he was still considering leaving Newman Media. He asked if she remembered when they were talking in bed yesterday. According to Adam, Sally had said all the things he’d been feeling, but he couldn’t quite articulate – that Victor made his job contingent on doing Victor’s bidding, not merit. Hearing Sally say that filled him with righteous anger, and it made him realize all the things he’d wanted to say to his father. He then went on to say those things. She asked if he thought she steered him in the wrong direction.

Adam said he wouldn’t gain anything from leaving Newman Media. It would only feed into the narrative that he was reckless and impulsive. She said those weren’t always the worst qualities. He added that it would also send the message that he shouldn’t be taken seriously. He thought it was clear that Ashland and Victoria planned to push him aside as soon as the merger went through. He decided to go on the offensive and make Victoria and Ashland fail. He said he’d tell Victor that he’d keep an eye on Ashland. But Adam wouldn’t be doing this for Victor’s sake, he’d be doing it for his own.

At Newman Media, Victor told Victoria that Adam had second thoughts about staying at Newman. Victoria said she did as Victor asked and kept Adam on, but she couldn’t make him stay, and she didn’t want a top executive who wasn’t fully committed. Victor told Victoria to smooth things over with Adam. Victor wanted Victoria to make Adam feel respected. Victoria balked about soothing Adam’s fragile ego, and Victor said part of being CEO was dealing with the entire executive staff, including people who disagreed with you. Victor wanted Victoria to pass the message on to Ashland. Victor was unhappy Ashland told Adam he’d be keeping him on a short leash, and if Adam didn’t like it he could quit. Victoria thought Ashland was just setting boundaries. Victor snapped that no one set boundaries for his children except him.

Victoria said she showed up in the middle of Ashland’s talk with Adam, so she knew what was said. Victor asked if Victoria denied that Ashland reined in Adam at every turn. Victoria said Adam was testing his boundaries, and Ashland let him know that he had autonomy within reason, but he answered to Ashland and Victoria. She noted that she’d signed off on Adam’s first major decision – hiring Sally, which was a questionable decision, at best. She asked what the problem was. Victor didn’t like Ashland disrespecting Adam. He reminded Victoria that Adam helped her wedding from blowing up. Victoria didn’t think that justified giving Adam a free pass. She was happy her wedding wasn’t derailed, but she was sure Adam did that to prove his loyalty to Victor. She said Adam was rewarded because she kept him on at Newman Media, which would become a larger division once the merger went through. She grumbled that Adam went crying to daddy because his feelings were hurt. Victor said that wasn’t what happened. She thought Adam came back into Newman Enterprises and was bitter he wasn’t running it anymore. Victor reiterated that Victoria should smooth things over with Adam and make him feel welcome, for the good of the company.

Nikki came in after Victoria left. Victor confided that he’d heard some disturbing news about Ashland. Nikki was exasperated that Victor kept digging into that poor man’s life. Victor clarified that he had an email from a Peruvian doctor who said Ashland paid a substantial amount of money to falsify his medical records to make it look like he had cancer. Nikki asked how reliable this doctor was. Victor said Michael, one of the sharpest legal minds, found the testimony credible. Nikki said this could be a disgruntled ex employee looking for money or attention. Victor had considered all that, and Michael was continuing to investigate. Nikki refused to let Victor alienate Victoria by stirring up trouble in her marriage when they didn’t even know this was true. Victor said he was going to handle this with discretion for Victoria’s sake. Adam arrived.

Nikki left. Adam apologized to Victor and said Victor was right – it was hubris talking earlier. Adam was going to stay on at Newman Media. Victor asked if Adam talked to Victoria today, and he said no. Adam assumed Victor told Victoria to smooth things over. Victor said he wanted to protect the family and bring everyone together. Adam said he wasn’t going to spy on Ashland for Victor. Victor said Adam no longer needed to do that. Victor said there were things going on at Newman Locke that he was observing carefully. Adam asked if this was about Ashland. Victor said he believed he was right about Ashland. The most important thing though, was that Victor could count on Adam, because all hell was about to break loose.

At Newman Locke, Ashland was on the phone having a tense conversation with someone. He wanted that damn doctor found before he caused any more damage. He demanded to know how the person on the other end of the call allowed this to happen. “Allowed what to happen?,” Victoria said as she walked in. He tricked her into thinking there was a problem with the contract language in the Newman Media acquisition. She wanted to get involved, but he said it was a minor thing that he was handling. She was surprised it was minor since he’d sounded so heated on the phone. He said he was just trying to light a fire under the person. He said that if she wanted, he’d show her the issue with the contract. She said no, because she was sure he’d ask if he needed her help.

Ashland said that when he and Victoria merged the companies, he was focused on cementing his legacy. Due to his illness and treatment, he couldn’t make significant contributions here and be a real partner to her. Now he felt so much stronger, and he was ready to immerse himself into the powerhouse they were building. He’d been trying to carve out a place where he could make more of a contribution. He said they were both used to being the heads of their own corporation. Now, he was an advisor, and she was CEO, and he was ready to do more. He said they were in love, and they were working side by side in a company that bore both their names. He wanted to be co-CEO. She asked if his title really mattered. He said it mattered to other people. He lied and said he was being stern on the phone earlier because the legal department was giving him a hard time about making a small change in the contract. Victoria said she’d go talk to legal and get things straightened out. Ashland said he needed to be respected on his own, and that a title would do that. It would also send the message that he wasn’t an old man on his way out.

Ashland could tell Victoria didn’t like the idea of him being co-CEO. He asked if she had a problem with sharing the title and work, and she said no. Her eyes filled with tears, and she said she was worried that it might worsen his condition. She’d been through this with him, and she didn’t want him to push himself. She was concerned they’d undo all the progress they’d made. He said he was optimistic about his condition, but he knew the reality, and he didn’t believe he’d been magically cured. He felt better right now, and he wanted to live what was left of his life to the fullest extent. She wanted him to stay healthy. He said when he worked, he felt more like himself, and he felt in control.

Ashland sensed there was more to Victoria’s hesitancy. She admitted that this was also about the title. Her father put it in her head that she needed to be wary of Ashland because he was getting stronger, as if he might be some kind of threat to her or the company. Ashland said Victor was wrong. Victoria knew, and she wasn’t going to pay attention to what Victor said. She wanted to be partners in every way, so she said she’d have the contracts drawn up right away. She was still concerned about his health, and she was sorry she hesitated. She loved him. He loved her too. They hugged.

Devon and Amanda were still at Chance and Abby’s. The baby slept through the night. Chance and Abby noted that the doctor said the first couple days were critical. Abby was glad he was in the comfort of his own home. Devon was glad they had the resources to set up the nurseries with equipment and hire a private nurse. Chance took Devon aside and said he’d cover the price of the medical transport when the doctor said it would be okay for Dom to visit Devon. Devon said it wasn’t necessary, but Chance wanted to do this, because they were in this together. Chance felt it was the least he could do since Devon donated marrow and gave Dom such a wonderful gift. Chance knew how much Devon loved their son and that he’d do anything for the baby. Chance would do the same. Nate and Dr. Alston arrived to examine Dominic. Chance and Abby talked in private. He was worried for Dominic, and he hated that he hadn’t fully been there for him while he was dealing with his own issues. He was finished trying to convince himself he could manage this on his own. He’d also decided to get professional help. She was supportive.

Devon hoped Dom would be okay, and Amanda said that Dom had been a fighter since birth, and now he had a part of Devon inside of him, helping him fight. The doctors came downstairs and said Dom was doing extremely well. Dr. Alston said they’d be on the lookout for side effects and infections. After Dr. Alston left, Amanda and the three parents started heading toward the nursery. Nate stopped them and stressed that they had to take precautions because of the risk of infections. He told them to limit their visits. Chance told Abby to go first. Nate said the three parents working together for the welfare of their child was beautiful.

After the guests left, Chance called Sharon and asked if they could meet today to talk about finding him a therapist. She asked if he was sure he wanted to meet today – she heard he had a few rough days. He said he wanted to do it today for his family and for his son. Sharon came by. She asked about Dominic and commiserated about having a sick child. She had a list of good therapists. Chance said Dom needed him to be more of a father than he had been lately. Abby said they needed some guidance, and she understood Sharon didn’t think she should counsel Chance since she was so close to the situation. Chance explained that he didn’t think he had that internal thing parents felt – Devon and Abby had it though. Sharon admired Chance for wanting to be a better father and husband, and she was sure those things would happen for him. She told him to remember that reaching out for help was a sign of strength. Abby walked Sharon out. When she returned, she overheard Chance scheduling an appointment for as soon as possible.

Amanda, Devon, Nate and Elena went to Crimson Lights. They brought Elena up to speed. Elena thought Dom was the luckiest child to have three concerned parents. Devon thanked Nate for having the doctor make a house call. He liked having a doctor in the family. Nate broke the news that, after a lot of soul searching and a lot of long talks with Elena, he made the decision to leave the medicine for the business world. Surgery was Nate’s passion, but he didn’t enjoy the administrative side. He thought it was good that he was making a change instead of accepting that this was the best he could expect things to be.

Nate said Ashland sparked his decision to make a career move. He explained that he and Ashland hit it off after Nate helped him through a rough moment with his illness. Amanda noted that Ashland flew Nate and Elena to Tuscany on his private jet. Nate knew he and Ashland were unlikely friends with very different life experiences. Ashland convinced Nate that this move would be an exciting challenge. Devon wondered why Nate didn’t come work for Hamilton Winters, since Neil put him on the board – he could be at the family business. Nate said Lily offered him a job at Chancellor Industries. Nate appreciated the offer, but since Ashland got the ball rolling, Nate thought working with him would be the best move.
