Nick: [ Sighs ] I’m trying, dad.

Victor: What happened to your sister last night must be utterly devastating and traumatizing. What ashland locke has done to your sister is going to take a long time to get over.

Nikki: Yes, your father is right. It’s important that we give her this time to sort through her feelings, although I was really hoping that I would hear from her assistant by now. Let us know she’s in the office.

Nick: We don’t know if she’s gonna go into work today.

Nikki: Yes, she will. She’s a lot like your father in that regard. Focusing on work has gotten her through many heartbreaks in the past.

Nick: We don’t know if she can use work as a distraction, you know, thanks to ashland. He is co-owner of newman/locke. He’s co-ceo.

Victor: I will promise you that ain’t gonna last very long. We’re gonna cut that bastard out of our family and out of the family business.

Nikki: In a way that protects victoria’s dignity and privacy.

Victor: Of course, that goes without saying.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Nick: What’s wrong?

Victor: My security team just saw victoria at crimson lights, and ashland locke has joined her.

Ashland: Victoria, I…

[ Chuckles ] I just thank god, I’m so relieved I found you. I was…I was hoping that you would come home last night so we could talk.

Victoria: Why? What would be the point? You just declared that you weren’t gonna try anymore to save our marriage.

Ashland: Words that i regretted the moment I said them. But I would think you already know that, assuming you read my texts.

Victoria: I did.

Ashland: But you didn’t respond. B-because you believe what your family is saying about me.

Victoria: Well, what am i supposed to believe? You’ve offered me no explanation, no defense whatsoever.

Ashland: I chose, in the moment, to not dignify their insulting accusations, but I do think I gave you something you could believe in. I told you how much I love you, how much I need you. And I’m sure you could see that came straight from my heart.

Chance: [ Imitates engine ] Whoa! Here we go, dom! Off daddy’s arm, onto the couch, and [Imitates engine] Here it comes, the magical flying car coming in for a landing.

[ Imitates brakes squealing ]

[ Laughs ] Ahh, that’s fun, huh, man? You like that? Yeah? I’ll tell you what, man, by the time you’re driving, there will probably be flying cars. Yeah, how about that?

Abby: Wow, sounds very exciting. Dominic has a lot of amazing things to look forward to.

Chance: Check it out, dom. Mommy’s coming to play with us. Hey, mommy.

Abby: [ Laughs ] Well, it looks like you guys are having so much fun. Why don’t I make a snack?

Chance: Oh, boy, a snack. What do you think, man? You ready to chow down? “That’s a big affirmative, mommy.”

Abby: [ Laughs ] Coming right up.

[ Laughs ]

Chance: Here it comes. We’re off into the takeoff. It’s flying through the air. It’s incredible. Here it comes.

[ Imitates engine ]

Nick: Damn it, I bet you ashland is stalking her.

Victor: Okay, we need to get over there.

Nick: Alright, let’s go.

Nikki: Alright, wait a minute, wait a minute. Before we go rushing over to her defense, let’s think about this.

Nick: What is there to think about?

Nikki: As much as we hate the idea of ashland being anywhere near her, she’s not in any danger. She’s in a public place. She can handle herself, and if there is a problem, your man is standing by ready to intervene.

Nick: We don’t know what her frame of mind is. If she is vulnerable, ashland will take advantage of that.

Nikki: I know, but if we go in there like the cavalry, she’s gonna resent it, and then ashland will take advantage of that.

Victor: Son, just go over there and check it out, please.

Nikki: Alright, look, whatever you do, please don’t make a scene.

Nick: Don’t worry, I’ll finesse things.

Nikki: Thank you.

Nick: And I promise you I’m not gonna hit him, as much as i want to.

Nikki: Oh, good thinking.

Victor: [ Sighs ]

Nikki: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: I heard every word that you said. But what I saw in your eyes told a different story. I saw fear. And I saw desperation. Where was that coming from?

Ashland: I welcome the chance to discuss that with you, but… not here, please. Can we just go home?

Victoria: Answer the question.

Victoria: I have never seen you run scared from my family before.

Ashland: I didn’t run scared. I saw what your family was doing to you with their constant harassment. They were pouring poison into your mind, and there was nothing I could do to fight it. I can’t answer their questions because I don’t know yet who’s setting me up.

Ashland: Victoria, I have made so many enemies over the years. It could be any number of people, but without solid facts to defend myself, how could you possibly expect me to stand up against your parents, your brothers, your family, your friends?

[ Sighs ] Not to mention — was I supposed to isolate you from the people who care about you the most? I couldn’t do that. That wasn’t right.

Victoria: Oh, so you did this for my sake.

Ashland: Yeah, it was a difficult moment. My thinking was muddled, but, yes, my instinct was to protect you. It always is. And — and I have no doubt that you did see desperation in my eyes, because I was about to lose the woman I love, the woman who has stood by me and fought for me, even when we thought i had nothing to fight for. It was one thing for you to stand by me fighting my cancer, but for you to go to war with your entire family? I couldn’t ask you to do that.

Victoria: So you’re saying that I’m the problem, because of my lack of faith in you.

Ashland: Exactly the opposite. I don’t blame you for being influenced by their doubts.

Victoria: This has nothing to do with anyone influencing me.

Ashland: O– okay. That was a poor choice of words. I apologize. Let me start again. I know better than anyone what a strong-willed, independent woman you are. But this so-called evidence against me would be too much for anyone to ignore.

Ashland: Now, I-I am determined to find out who’s setting me up and to show you that I am still the man you fell in love with. Who loves you with all his heart and soul.

Victoria: If you lied to me about being sick, then you don’t really love me.

Ashland: You said “if.” Is there still some part of you that trusts me enough to know that I would never do anything like that to you?

Billy: No. Victoria, do not let him get away with this.

Chance: Oh, it’s coming down!

[ Groans ] I could hear my team inside. And they were yelling. That hurt much worse than the shrapnel in my leg, I’ll tell you. Some of the toughest people i know screaming for their lives. I couldn’t move. Felt pretty worthless. After that, there was just silence. And I knew what that meant. I got on my feet. I looked for survivors, you know, calling out names, digging through the rubble, but I got nothing. The bastards that did it showed up looking for survivors, as well. I played dead until they left… surrounded by my friends’ bodies, and I hid. Why did I survive when they didn’t? Why me?

[ Breathing heavily ]

Victoria: I know I can count on my mom to handle things until I get in.

Ashland: Did you stay at the ranch last night?

Victoria: I needed time to think.

Billy: Stop, stop, stop. Victoria’s talking to ashland. Do not interrupt them. I’m hoping she’s about to throw that hot cup of coffee in his face.

Nick: How much do you know?

Billy: Everything. She told me everything. I have moderate to severe ulcerative colitis.

Abby: Snack time.

Chance: Oh, boy. Did you hear that, dom? It’s snack time. I tell you what, you do not know how good you got it, man. Your mom is the best. And she’s beautiful — look at her. And fun, and she is a great cook, I’ll tell you what.

Abby: Oh, yes, it takes great culinary skill to put some cheese and crackers on a plate.

Chance: Well, she’s also very kind and understanding and patient.

Abby: Hmm. It sounds like you want something.

Chance: She’s also very perceptive.

Abby: What do you need, chance? Whatever it is, all you have to do is ask.

Billy: I can’t tell you how pissed off I am that he screwed her over the way that he did. Not that I’m surprised. I assume you’re not either, ’cause we had his number from the beginning.

Nick: I hope that’s not what you said to her.

Billy: Close.

Nick: I bet that went over well.

Billy: Actually, she admitted that we were right. She’s mad at herself that she fell for his garbage.

Nick: He’s the one she should be mad at.

Billy: She is. Believe me, she is. Or…she was. Thought she was gonna smack him when he first walked in. Then he started giving her that stupid look that he’s perfected, all pained and sincere. Like he’s the victim — he’s done it his entire life. You think she’d see through it by now.

Ashland: I was up most of the night, thinking about the terrible mistake I made. It was wrong of me to walk out on you the way I did. You are more than capable of making your own decisions, and it’s not my place to do that for you. If you can’t get past your doubts about me, I will understand that. I will respect your wishes, whatever they are. But if there is the slightest chance that you’re willing to wait for me until I can clear my name…that would be a miracle.

Victoria: I think everything is going to work out.

Ashland: Do you mean that?

Victoria: I need to deal with my family.

Ashland: Let me go with you. I can —

Victoria: No, I’d like to do it alone.

Ashland: But — but —

Victoria: I’ll be fine.

Ashland: Okay.

Victoria: I’ll meet you afterwards at society.

Ashland: I’ll be waiting.

[ Sighs ] This means the world to me. You have no idea.

Nick: What the hell?

Nikki: Oh, this waiting…

Victor: Believe me, I wish we had heard something by now.

Nikki: There’s an executive staff meeting in 10 minutes. I’ll have to cover for victoria and ashland.

Victor: How are you gonna explain their absence?

Nikki: By being as vague as possible.

Victor: We have to keep it quiet about what happened last night, okay? Until that scum’s out of the company, I don’t want anyone to know about it.

Nikki: When victoria’s ready, we will all sit down together and hammer out a strategy.

Victor: I think you’re more worried about victoria than you’re letting on.

Nikki: Well, yes, of course I’m worried. Ashland has lied to her before, but never anything like this. This is a crushing betrayal, and we saw how devastated she was when she finally admitted what he had done.

Victor: I think once the shock wears off, she will want to be rid of that loser as much as we do.

Ashland: Are you sure you don’t want me to go with you, face your family together?

Victoria: Have you been spying on me this whole time? What is he doing here? Did you call him?

Billy: And we weren’t spying on you, okay? I was still here when he walked in, and I wanted to stick around to make sure that you were okay. We didn’t interrupt because we were hoping we were gonna watch you kick his ass to the curb.

Victoria: I don’t have to explain myself to either one of you.

Nick: Do not tell me you’re gonna forgive this lying creep again.

Victoria: Okay, I won’T.

Nick: Vick, come on.

Victoria: Nicholas, why can you not just trust me for once? I know what I’m doing. And thank you for listening to me earlier and respecting me. It meant a lot.

Nick: I don’t like this at all.

Abby: Come, sit.

Chance: I can see you’re upset.

Abby: I’m not upset. I’m just worried, and please don’t tell me that there isn’t any reason to be.

Chance: Okay. Well, before you ask, yes, I am still having panic attacks, nightmares, you know, the disturbing thoughts. All that hasn’t gone away just yet.

Abby: Yeah, I saw you fighting through one a moment ago.

Chance: Yeah, but I’m okay. Really, things are getting better, I promise. Sometimes it just — it just sneaks up on me, you know? Less often than before.

Abby: And I assume this is something that you shared with your therapist?

Chance: Yeah, yeah. Dr. Huffman is, you know, helping me understand these a little bit better, what’s going on up here when they’re happening. He taught me some breathing exercises, some relaxation techniques to help.

Chance: But he also recommended something else, and in order to follow through on that, I’m really gonna need your support.

Abby: Of course, absolutely, yeah, I will support you any way that I can.

Chance: Well, you might want to wait and hear what it is first, ’cause I have a feeling you’re not gonna like what he recommended.

Abby: Try me.

Nick: What did victoria say to you before ashland showed up? How did she seem?

Billy: I think you should go find your sister and ask her yourself.

Nick: I can’t do that, billy. If I push it any more with her, it could really backfire.

Billy: Yeah, that’s true.

Nick: So when you talked to her, what did she say? Was she making excuses for ashland? Was she trying to come up with reasons to believe his story?

Billy: No. Not at all. She told me flat-out that he lied about everything. She said she looked in his eyes and knew that he was guilty.

Nick: Thank god.

Billy: We also talked about him being potentially dangerous.

Nick: Are you serious?

Billy: Yes, which is why i don’t understand what the hell just happened. How does that conversation end with them being affectionate?

Nick: Well, think about it, he’s still co-owner of newman/locke. He is the co-ceo. He’s got all this leverage on her. As much as we would’ve liked to have seen her go off on him, maybe it’s not her best move.

Billy: [ Sighs ]

Victor: Where’s victoria?

Nick: She’s — she’s already gone.

Victor: You and I need to talk in private.

Billy: No, I’m good. She told me about everything.

Victor: Did she?

Billy: Which is why you should’ve teamed up with me in the beginning. We could’ve stopped ashland in his tracks.

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

Chance: We’re gonna have to work on his stamina, huh?

Abby: Yeah. Okay, so I am all yours. Please tell me what dr. Huffman suggested to help you work through this.

Chance: Well…it’s funny you phrase it that way, because he thinks I should literally work through it. He thinks I should go back to the police force.

Abby: Wow, okay.

[ Chuckles ] Well, that is the last thing i expected your therapist to say.

Chance: Why do you say that?

Abby: I mean, didn’t you tell him about what happened when you went on the stakeout with rey?

Chance: Yeah, of course. Of course I did. I mean, we had a very detailed conversation about the whole thing.

Abby: And?

Chance: Well, we agreed that, at the time, I was expecting too much of myself. And now I can approach it, you know, differently.

Abby: Okay, um…look, I know that dr. Huffman is a professional and I’m not trying to second-guess what he said, but, I mean, it’s just — it’s really hard for me to fathom that he would want you to go back to work, to put yourself under that kind of pressure when you’re not ready.

Chance: He thinks I am ready.

Abby: But — but clearly you haven’t healed from the trauma that you suffered in spain — the nightmares and the flashbacks are proof of that.

Chance: I think his idea is that getting back to my normal routine and building up my confidence in these certain situations, that’s all gonna be part of the healing process. But, listen, I understand if you have reservations or concerns. And if you’re uncomfortable with it, that’s fine. I don’t have to do it.

[ Knock on door ]

Nikki: Here I am. I’m so glad you called.

Victoria: How was the staff meeting?

Nikki: Oh, uneventful. I just said that you and ashland couldn’t make it and let it go at that. You seem tired, honey.

Victoria: I didn’t sleep much.Nikki: I don’t think any of us did.

Victoria: I’m sorry that i didn’t get back to you and your texts. I turned my phone off. I just needed some time to myself last night.

Nikki: Oh, no, I’m glad that you took it. How are you feeling now?

Victoria: Better. Where’s dad? I would assume that he would be with you.

Nikki: Actually, he left to go find you.

Victoria: [ Scoffs ] I’m sure he knew exactly where to find me. And don’t deny that he had me followed. I’m pretty sure I saw one of his security team outside my hotel, and then nicholas showed up at crimson lights when I was there. Surprise, surprise.

Nikki: We didn’t intend invade your privacy. We just wanted to make sure you were alright.

Victoria: And that I wasn’t with ashland.

Nikki: Well, we didn’t want him harassing you.

Victoria: After he made his dramatic announcement that he’s walking away from our marriage.

Nikki: Oh, none of us put much stock in that.

Victoria: Well, you were right.

Nikki: What do you mean? I know that you spoke to ashland at the coffee house. Did he admit to lying about being sick?

Victoria: No, no such luck. He insists still that he’s being set up and he’s going to “prove his innocence.”

Nikki: But you don’t believe that.

Victoria: Mother, I’m only willing to get into this once. Would you please call nicholas and dad and have them come back here? And I’ll tell you everything that you need to know.

Victor: Billy boy, I’m not interested in your opinion.

Billy: Oh, that’s too bad, ’cause if you were interested back in tuscany, victoria wouldn’t be in this situation, would she?

Nick: This isn’t doing any good. We all want the same thing here, and that is to get victoria out of this disaster of a marriage.

Victor: Let me ask you, what was she doing in locke’s arms?

Nick: I don’t know, dad. I asked her about it.

Victor: Did she have any explanation?

Nick: None. She just insisted that she knows what she’s doing.

Billy: I talked to her before ashland got here, and believe me, she was furious with him.

Nick: It’s hard to know where her head is.

Victor: Excuse me. Yes, darling. Is victoria with you?

Nikki: Yes, she’s back in the office, and she would like to speak to all of us together.

Victor: We’ll be right over. Let’s go, son. Did I ask you to come along? This is a family affair. You stay out of it.

Billy: My kids are part of that family, so you damn well better believe that I’m gonna protect their interests.

Victor: Stay out of it, billy boy. I’m warning you.

Nick: Dad, come on. Want strong hair even after coloring?

Abby: I’m not asking you to drop the idea of going back to work. I want that for you. I mean, that has always been the goal. That is why I had encouraged therapy in the first place. I just — I need help understanding why dr. Huffman is taking this position.

Chance: Okay, well, I’ll do my best to explain.

Abby: Why does he think that doing this now wouldn’t be too much, too soon?

Chance: Abby, I’m in a better place. I am. Yes, I am still struggling with some things, I know. But when I went on that stakeout with rey — first of all, that was a very impulsive decision. I did not think that through at all. And second, there were certain uncertainties, certain pressures that have faded since then, right? You know, dominic was sick, and we didn’t know why. We weren’t sure about sharing custody with devon. We didn’t know how that was gonna go. I mean, I had so much uncertainty on so many different fronts. That’s not the case now. I feel good and I feel like I’m back on the right track.

Abby: Yeah. I do, too.

Chance: And look, I’m certain that this guy knows what he’s talking about. I trust him. Getting mentally stronger, it’s not about just sitting around and waiting to get better, right? It’s like exercising a muscle — you got to do a little bit at a time and build yourself back up.

Abby: Okay, so you’re not talking about throwing yourself back into work full force.

Chance: No. I will pace myself, I promise. I will see how things go. And look, I know I’m gonna have setbacks. I know there are gonna be days that are worse than others. I am more equipped to handle all that now. I am. I understand that this is part of the process. Failure is inevitable sometimes. Things go wrong, and people make mistakes. It doesn’t have to define you or hold you back.

Abby: Well, I can tell that you put a great deal of thought into this. And I would never want to be the one standing in your way.

Chance: Are you kidding me? That’s not what you’re doing. I understand your concerns are out of love. I do. But I’m confident that this is a step I need to take.

Abby: Then…so am I.

Chance: Thank you. Thank you for being the most supportive partner a man could ask for, really.

Victoria: So at the staff meeting, how did the division heads react to the new vacation policy?

Nikki: Oh, most were in favor. The employees who have children like the idea of being able to sync up their days off with the school calendar.

Victoria: I don’t foresee that being an issue, do you?

Nikki: No, no, I think we should implement it and see how things go, reassess it at the end of the year.

Victoria: Agreed.

[ Sighs ] What?

Nikki: I knew that work would be what brought you back to us, and I’m so glad. But we shouldn’t pretend that a major upheaval hasn’t just taken place.

Victoria: I’m not pretending.

Nikki: No?

Victoria: No, I’m compartmentalizing.

Nikki: I see.

Victoria: It’s my strong suit, okay?

Nikki: Darling, no one is questioning your strength. You don’t have to prove yourself to anybody. You were deceived — we all were. And the only one to blame for that is ashland. But we’re your family and we will stand by you.

Victoria: Well, that’s great, mom, but we might have different ideas of what that should look like.

Nikki: Meaning what?

[ Door opens ]

Victor: We’ve been very worried about you.

Victoria: I gave you good reason to worry by running off the way that I did. I’m sorry about that.

[ Sighs ] I was just reacting to the bomb exploding, and… but I wanted to reassure you that I am not falling apart, and nor do I plan to.

Billy: Hey, ashland.

Ashland: Hello, billy.

Billy: How’s everything in your world?

Ashland: Fantastic. How are you?

Billy: I’m good. Good, thank you for asking. Yeah, really loving my gig at chancellor. Most fulfilling job I’ve ever had, which I’m sure is annoying to you since you tried to ruin my career.

Ashland: Oh, I was just hoping that you would learn a lesson, that’s all. And back the hell off. Apparently you’ve done both, so good for you.

Billy: You always land on your feet, don’t you? Even though you lied, cheated, and stole your way into your so-called accomplishments in life, including your name. And even when you get caught, nothing sticks. I wouldn’t count on that continuing if I were you.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ]

[ Sighs ] Pain hits fast.

Abby: Mmm.

[ Chuckles ] Unfortunately, I have to slow this down.

[ Scoffs ]

Chance: Should we — should we check on dom first, yeah?

Abby: No, I have to get to society. I told the manager I’d go over some things with her.

Chance: Okay. Are you sure you want me to go back to work? Right.

Abby: I love you.

Chance: Alright.

[ Sighs ] Hey, rey. How you doing? Excellent. Yeah. Well, listen, man, I was hoping we could meet up. There’s something I’d like to talk to you about.

Ashland: You seem so delighted at the prospect of my eventual downfall. Is that just wishful thinking or do you know something i don’t?

Billy: It’s inevitable.

Ashland: Based on?

Billy: You can only roll the dice so many times before it comes up snake eyes.

Ashland: Said the man with the gambling problem.

Victor: To be frank with you, I’m stunned that you’re coping as well as you are. I mean, the last few days must have been horrendously difficult for you.

Victoria: Stop it.

Nikki: Darling, please just hear him out.

Victor: Sweetheart, I think you’re still in a state of shock. What ashland locke has done to you, basing your entire relationship on a lie.

Victoria: Daddy, don’t patronize me. I know exactly what I’m doing.

Victoria: Alright, listen up, all of you, because I’m only gonna say this once. I intend to handle this how i see fit, on my own, and you don’t have to like it.

Victor: Come in. Hello, son.

Nick: I got here as fast as i could. Has anybody heard from victoria?

Victor: No. Not after she bolted yesterday, when she found out that ashland had been lying to her about his cancer.

Nick: I was really hoping she would reach out to one of us, but she’s not returning any of my calls or texts.

Nikki: We have to give her some space for now.

Nick: Mom, do you really think that’s the best plan here? I mean, we don’t know where her head’s at or how she’s dealing with any of this.

Victor: Well, I have it on good authority that she spent the night in a hotel.

Nick: Well, I was hoping you would say that, that your people are keeping an eye on her.

Nikki: She has a lot to deal with. Finding out that she’s been lied to about everything and that her marriage is a sham.

Victor: You know, I just have a feeling that she’ll come out stronger and wiser after all this. I’m concerned about what ashland locke will do.

Nikki: After that dramatic exit he made.

Victor: Yeah.

Nick: I think he just did that to buy him some time so he can plan his next move.

Ashland: It doesn’t matter what I say or how I defend myself against this attack. I wish it was enough for you… to know that I love you with all my heart. Because your love means everything to me. You have changed my life. But this — this right here… this is obviously never going to work. I’m done trying.

Victoria: Billy.

Billy: You look like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders. Is everything okay?

Victoria: Yeah, of course it’s okay.

Billy: Alright, do you expect me to believe that and walk away? ‘Cause I think we both know that that’s not gonna happen, and i don’t think it’s about the kids because I just talked to them and they are loving school.

Billy: Yeah, so do I.

Victoria: But I’m thankful they’re not here right now.

Billy: What’s going on, vick? Did ashland take a turn for the worse?

Sally: Oh, did you feel that? Looked at you and then the temperature dipped about 50 degrees.

Adam: Mm-hmm. Well, a lot went down last night. Things got blown wide open with him and victoria. Anger, recrimination, shattered lives. It’s a volatile situation and the stakes couldn’t be higher. Some people might look at what happened and think it’s time to panic.

Sally: But you see a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity?

Adam: Exactly.

Sally: I will grab us a table.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] You read my mind.

Ashland: You see, that’s the problem with living in a small town. You try to avoid someone, and there he is every time.

Adam: Well, I have a solution. Leave genoa city.

Ashland: Why would I want to do that?

Adam: Shame, embarrassment, being exposed. I mean, I can’t imagine there’s a whole lot of people that want you to stay. Even victoria has accepted the truth.

Rey: Work meeting?

Chelsea: Yeah.

Rey: Oh, I know, right? It’s like those influencers on social media — not a hair out of place, every day’s a vacation in paradise.

Chelsea: It’s exhausting. I don’t know how they do it.

Rey: [ Sighs ] Right? I mean, who has that much time?

Chelsea: I’d much rather hang out with someone who’s seen me at my worst, who has zero expectations. Someone who’s totally authentic. Someone I can be 100% comfortable with.

Nikki: We need to find a way to help victoria get through this while respecting her privacy.

Nick: We are all in agreement about that. My concern is her next move might be confronting ashland.

Victor: Whatever retaliation she comes up with is not gonna be punishment enough.

Nick: I still can’t believe that he could do that. That he could stand up there in front of all of us, in front of her family and her friends, and say those vows to her, to make her feel more loved and valued than ever and know that it was all a lie. I think it’s gonna take a huge toll on her to face him.

Victor: You know he’s gonna take advantage of that. You know that.

Nick: I just wish there was a way for me to get him out of town, you know, for good. Out of her life like he never existed so she can be done with him forever.

Nikki: I know, but, honey, she wouldn’t be done with him. I know you want to protect your sister from more pain, but that’s not the answer.

Billy: Look, we have been through a lot together, okay? Some crazy, roller-coaster type stuff, but there is one thing in our life that will always be constant.

Victoria: And what would that be?

Billy: I care about you and your happiness, and I always will.

Victoria: I suppose that’s why you felt like you had to blow up my wedding and humiliate me in public? Because you just didn’t think i was quite happy enough.

Billy: No, that was me worried that you were making a mistake, and if you’re talking about that video that proved ashland was a piece of work, i didn’t go through with that. I deleted that.

Victoria: Please don’t sit there and tell me how altruistic you were and that you’ve done everything out of the goodness of your heart. You had that article written about him because you wanted to wreck his reputation.

Billy: Vick, I did that to protect myself and my company, and for good reason. You know our systems were hacked.

Victoria: Oh, it’s never your fault, is it?

Billy: Everything in that article about ashland was 100% true. He did all those things. And yet I’m the one that took the hit. I lost my credibility and my job.

Victoria: You chose to walk away.

Billy: No, I swallowed all my doubts because I wanted to make sure that you were as happy as possible. And believe me, I wished — i hoped that I was wrong about him.

Victoria: No, you didn’T. No, you didn’T. You wanted all of those things to be true, that ashland couldn’t be trusted, that I had no business marrying him in the first place. And you warned me over and over again, but I ignored you. Well, congratulations, billy. You were right all along. How did olay top expensive creams?

Rey: So who was that anyway?

Chelsea: The woman I was just meeting with? Oh, she’s this fabulous fabric designer. She works with gorgeous materials. I have some ideas of patterns I’d like to use, so we’re hoping we can make some magic together.

Rey: Oh, that’ll be fun.

Chelsea: It should be, but i couldn’t even focus on anything she was saying, ’cause I was thinking about connor.

Rey: Everything okay?

Chelsea: What do you call when a kid you’ve known his entire life, that you love with your whole heart, you suddenly don’t recognize him anymore?

Rey: Oh, yeah, he’s doing that preteen thing. What’s going on?

Chelsea: I swear, rey, sometimes — no, no, no, sorry, you were here for a reason. I am not gonna dump all this on you.

Rey: Hey, hey, hey. I have a while before I have to head back to the station.

Chelsea: Oh. You’re just stopping by the spa for a little glow-up.

Rey: How’d you guess?

Chelsea: [ Chuckles ] Dropping in for a massage and pedicure?

Rey: Well, I wouldn’t say no to that, but actually I’m here to pick up a gift certificate for faith.

Chelsea: Oh, that’s sweet. Birthday?

Rey: The most difficult season in a high school senior’s life. Colleges are sending out their acceptance letters, and I figure if she gets into her top choices, it’s congratulations. But if not…

Chelsea: She can look forward to a day at the spa. That’s really thoughtful.

Rey: [ Chuckles ]

Chelsea: You’re a great stepdad.

Rey: Yeah, I like kids. I used to be one myself.

Chelsea: [ Gasps ] You don’t say.

Rey: What I’m saying is i have some time, and I’ve had a lot of experience with children and other humans, so…

Chelsea: So I can bend your ear?

Rey: Bend away.

Billy: Victoria, what did ashland do to you?

Victoria: [ Sighs ] It was all a lie.

Billy: What was?

Victoria: All of it. Everything. The cancer. Every moment we spent together. Every– everything. His deep love for me. Our connection. Every time I told myself that i was so lucky to be with him. Every time I defended him or stood beside him. All the times I was so terrified that he was going to die from the disease and all the nights and the days that I prayed we’d have some more time together — all of it.

[ Sighs ] It just feels like my whole world has fallen out from underneath my feet.

[ Voice breaking ] I’m — I’m so shattered.

Billy: Okay, I’m sorry, um… I just really need to understand what you’re saying here. Are you telling me that he lied about being sick?

Victoria: Yes, he did.

Billy: Oh, my god. I don’t even know what to say.

Victoria: I’m just so angry.

[ Inhales sharply ] I’m angry and I — I feel so regretful of the months that i directed that anger at you and nick and anyone that told me that ashland was gonna betray me.

[ Sniffles ]

[ Sighs ] I was angry at you for taking something away from me, something that I never had. This great love. The truth of all of it was just too much for me to even contemplate. But mostly, I’m so angry at ashland. I’m so angry at him, and I’m even more angry at myself for believing in him.

Ashland: What could you possibly have to offer that i would be interested in?

Adam: If you walk away from victoria and from newman/locke and you make a clean break, then newman media will not make it its mission to publish article after article about your cancer fraud. There will be plenty of people that are willing to go on the record with their anger and their outrage. Personal accounts of people that have been affected by cancer and are really suffering and will explain why you are the lowest of the low.

Ashland: You think I don’t know how to handle bad press?

Adam: [ Chuckles ] I’m thinking about harrison and how these lies will affect your son.

Ashland: Harrison is being raised by his biological father in milan.

Adam: You and I both know that biology doesn’t make a parent. That kid is the most important thing in your life. That is the only person that you truly care about. Everything you’ve done, everything that you have created is for harrison. Now, given the cold and calculated way you handled victoria, I know that you’re hoping everybody will assume that you feel the same indifference towards harrison, but you’ve shown yourself to be a patient man. You think long-term. You claim that you sent harrison away so you could shield him from witnessing your decline, and I got to say, it was a nice touch. But the truth is you wanted him packed away somewhere safe in case something went wrong. And it has. Now, I know what it’s like to want to shield your kid from the sins of your past. For me, it was just one article, and I had the newman resources and power to mitigate the damage that it caused. That’s the same kind of power and resources that is gonna be unleashed on you, and they will be relentless. Unsparing. And the fallout? Well, you can kiss your reunion that you wanted with harrison goodbye.

Ashland: I don’t respond well to threats.

Adam: Oh, you thought that was a threat? No, no, no, no. It was just a carefully considered offer. See, we know what you did and why you did it. And make no mistake, we have the proof. Now, I’m just trying to find a workable solution.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] I’m amber, I’ve lost 128 pounds with golo,

Nikki: Ashland needs to leave of his own volition, because if we try to force him out, he will come back even stronger. If victoria needs to confront him in order to find closure, we just have to let her do it.

Nick: You know, there’s another possibility that we need to be prepared for. That this latest revelation about ashland does not change victoria’s mind about him.

Victor: And I refuse to believe that she’d continue to ignore the obvious.

Nick: Dad, it might be easier to support and defend him than to accept what he’s done. You know, that she’s not the love of his life, she was just a way for him to get his hands on newman enterprises.

Nikki: Well, we have to protect victoria somehow. So what’s our next step?

Billy: What is his endgame here? I mean, how does anyone pretend to be dying to get what they want?

Victoria: [ Sighs ] I don’t know. I mean, all the evidence points to him lying about his cancer because he wanted people to sympathize with him and not see him for the shark that he is, so he could infiltrate newman.

Billy: So this is about your company?

Victoria: He wanted this merger from the day he stepped and he saw me as the way in. So he took advantage of my love and my ambition. I mean, I’m the weakness that he exploited.

Billy: Hold on a second here, okay? You stop that because you are not weak. You have never been weak. He is a parasitic son of a bitch that let his friend die and stole his name, and I wish that I could say I was surprised by this, but I’m not. It’s just confirmation of exactly who I thought he was the whole time.

Victoria: I should’ve listened to you.

Billy: [ Sighs ] Look, you’re not gonna get “i told you so” out of me, okay? Vick, I am so sorry that you are going through this. You don’t deserve any of this.

Victoria: I just can’t get the last time that I — I saw him out of my head. He told me how much he loved me and how profoundly I’ve changed his life. But I could see it in his eyes and I could hear it in his voice. He was trying so hard to convince me that everything he did was good and true. But then it happened, it’s like the mask just dropped away and i saw him for the monster that he is. And then I realized that everything that my family told me about him was true.

Billy: So what happens now?

Adam: Personally, I admire the sheer audacity of you pulled off, how you were able to do something so cunning and deceitful and just cruel. I mean, lie after lie about your past was exposed, and you were still able to get the newmans to sing your praises. I mean, sure, there were some people that had their doubts about you, of course, but you were able to get victor to see you as a younger version of himself. Overcoming an abusive father and a difficult past and then building an empire — I mean, yeah, sure, lies were told, documents were forged, inheritance were stolen, but those things, they happen. All of that could be overlooked because you made victoria so happy. And you were so convincing, you made her believe that you guys had a love that nobody could understand. It was you and victoria against the world. It was masterful. But, as a newman, I have to do my part to protect the family and the business. And let’s face it, you have nothing to defend yourself with.

Ashland: This isn’t over. And I am not giving up on victoria.

Adam: Ashland, you are a lot of things, but you are not delusional.

Ashland: We’re done.

Adam: You know, those articles I was talking about, they’re being fact-checked right now.

Ashland: [ Groans ]

Adam: I would not waste my time with the false bravado. So, you have my number.

Ashland: Hmm. Oh, by the way, don’t you ever talk to me about my son again ever. Everyone has a style…

Chelsea: One minute, connor’s hugging me, telling me he wants to cook with me and watch movies, and the next, I’m the enemy. To be ignored and avoided at all costs. It’s like everything I do is wrong or embarrassing or ridiculous.

Rey: Fun times.

Chelsea: Yeah. But, you know, I can’t say i blame him. He had his heart set on adam and I getting back together, and that didn’t happen. Oh, and top of it, now he’s telling me that he misses all the sports he was playing at boarding school. Apparently, walnut grove isn’t focused or competitive enough. It’s like he had this vision of what his life was gonna look like when he came home, and none of that’s happened.

Rey: Mm. That’s got to be frustrating.

Chelsea: Yeah.

Rey: Of course, I’m not speaking from personal experience, since my life’s been without disappointment.

Chelsea: Of course, of course, join the club. Me, too.

Rey: Have you thought about sending him back to boarding school?

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] I would hate it. But if that’s what’s gonna make him happy, how can I say no?

Rey: My opinion?

Chelsea: Please.

Rey: I think, as a parent, you got to think long-term. And right now connor is looking to fix things. Sometimes a change feels like a solution, but often it’s just a distraction.

Adam: How much could you hear?

Sally: Not one word. But I could tell it was high-stakes.

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Sally: Your body language gave it all away.

Adam: How?

Sally: Well, the more confident you got that you were gonna win, the more chill you looked.

Adam: Yeah?

Sally: Yeah, it was pretty clear how ashland felt about what you said and how you said it. He had no intention of leaving when we showed up, but after you went and talked to him, he could not get out of here fast enough.

Adam: You see, this is why i wanted to let you in on what’s going on at newman, because you’re intelligent, observant. You understand the game. You understand me.

Sally: Well, that is what a good coo should do.

Adam: So, um, here’s what i was talking to ashland about. Turns out he’s been lying about his cancer diagnosis, and we have the proof to back it up.

Sally: Oh, my god.

Adam: Yeah, you’re probably wondering why he did it, unless you’ve already figured that out.

Sally: Newman enterprises.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] You’re good. He was using his illness to win victoria’s trust and sympathy, so he was faking an illness to rush her into marriage and claim that they had to take advantage of the little time they had left.

Sally: Must have taken a ton of planning. All the lies he had to juggle, the people he had to convince, all the ways it could’ve gone wrong.

Adam: Well, there were plenty of warning signs along the way. You know, things kept coming up from ashland’s past, but he was able to use those revelations and his alleged terminal illness to sell that he was a changed man.

Sally: And content with cheering on victoria’s success from the sidelines.

Adam: Until his miraculous recovery that he received from his treatment in peru.

Sally: Which he used to persuade victoria to make him co-ceo of newman/locke.

Adam: Yes, bingo. Mission accomplished. I mean, imagine the fallout when this blows up. I told him what a series of articles might do if his son was to find out, what harrison would think to find out the kind of man that his father really is.

Sally: And what’d he say about that?

Adam: Well, he acted like it didn’t bother him, but I could tell that he was plotting his next move. I hope that he will realize he’s out of options and he will cut his losses.

Sally: Well, you know, he’s a ruthless businessman, I’m sure he’s able to compartmentalize his feelings about his son.

Adam: I don’t know. I think the stuff about his kid finding out the truth really got to him. I could tell. Question is, how is locke gonna play this?

Billy: What the hell is he up to? Honestly, I mean, this can’t be about money, right? He’s got enough money and wealth to buy and sell most small countries on the map, so what does he want?

Victoria: Not me. That’s clear now.

Billy: Well, he’s an idiot. Before the merger, he was top dog, he was king of the world at locke communications group. And then he merges with newman, he’s got to share all his shiny new toys. Unless his plan, vick —

Victoria: Unless he planned for something to happen to me when he was in a position to take over the company.

Chelsea: So how do you suggest I focus on long-term solutions with connor?

Rey: Just listen to him. Don’t rush in to anything.

Chelsea: But for a kid his age, a few weeks feels like an eternity.

Rey: That’s the thing, he’s acting like a kid, which he should. And I was raised by a single mom. I remember that I felt like i always had to take care of my mother. Things are different for connor. His dad is in his life, and he doesn’t feel the pressure of having to take on the responsibility of being the man of the house.

Chelsea: Which is why he’s fine leaving me and going back to boarding school.

Rey: He’s confident you’ll be okay without him. It’s a compliment to your parenting.

Chelsea: Well, I’m just trying to do a better job than anita. You saw firsthand what that was like.

Rey: Oh, you’re doing a great job.

Chelsea: Don’t say it if you don’t mean it.

Rey: I do. Don’t forget, I spent a lot of time with you and connor. I’ve seen how much he trusts you, how he feels safe enough to express how mad or frustrated he might get. He knows he can throw anything at you and you can handle it. He knows he can be himself without you judging him.

Chelsea: Given everything I’ve done, I’m not really in a position to judge anybody about anything.

Rey: Whatever the reason, it’s a big deal. He knows that he can come to you with anything, even the idea of going to boarding school. He’s a lucky kid. Did I say something wrong? Chelsea?

Chelsea: [ Sighs ]

Adam: Let’s make a list of cons by exposing ashland’s lies and that he can be tried in the court of public opinion.

Sally: Worst-case scenarios.

Adam: Well, if the world finds out about ashland’s trojan horse infiltration of the company, it could make the leadership at newman look stupid for falling for it.

Sally: Which is probably why ashland hasn’t given up and gone away.

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Sally: At least not yet.

Adam: We need to make him want to leave. We need to increase the pressure on him.

Sally: Any ideas?

Adam: Well, nobody wants to acknowledge victoria’s complicity in this mess, even if it is unwitting. She put the family company in jeopardy and she allowed herself to be completely taken in by him.

Sally: And you are the only one brave enough to admit that.

Adam: Mm-hmm. I just only hope that when the dust settles, my father faces the fact that his precious daughter put everything that he created, the legacy that he built, at risk.

Sally: Which definitely won’t bode well for victoria’s future at newman.

Adam: He can’t keep someone on like that. It’s not good for the company image, and he’s certainly got to have doubts about her judgment now.

Sally: Yeah, he’s gonna need someone to take over, someone he can trust.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Victoria’s in pain and we are plotting to take advantage of her downfall. Are we the worst?

Sally: Not in the least. This is a very necessary conversation. It is logical and practical because somebody has to keep their eye on the ball.

Nikki: There is no way that victoria will stay with ashland. I refuse to believe that.

Nick: Well, I don’t think we can just hope for the best. I mean, look at her history with the guy. Any time anyone raises any concerns about ashland, vick runs to his rescue.

Nikki: So what are you proposing?

Nick: I don’t know, mom. We need some contingency plan in case ashland does something unexpected.

Nikki: I mean, she couldn’t go back to him. Could she? I mean, after admitting that she knows ashland has been lying? What she needs right now is our support.

Victor: I got to be honest with both of you. I’ve had my doubts about ashland locke from the moment he stepped foot in our lives. I don’t trust him. But I let things be because i knew that he was making victoria very happy. She was in love with him. Now all I want to do is give her a big hug and make that excruciating pain she must be going through go away. But you’re right, sweetheart, we have to give her her own space. She needs to work out this whole problem on her own.

Nikki: I totally agree with you.

Victor: Yeah. But I want you both to know that I have my people keeping an eye on her. They know where she is at all times.

Billy: Has ashland ever done anything or said anything to you that might come across threatening or dangerous?

Victoria: No. I don’t think so.

Billy: I hate this.

Victoria: Why? Because you told me that I shouldn’t marry him and I didn’t listen to you?

Billy: No. No, I hate the fact that you even have to consider that he might be capable of doing anything to you to get you out of the way.

Victoria: I don’t know what he’s capable of, billy. I don’t know what he’s thinking or what he’s feeling.

Billy: He’s not feeling anything good, because he’s a heartless bastard.

Victoria: I don’t suppose you want to reconsider your stance on saying “I told you so”?

Billy: You don’t deserve this. You deserve to be happy, especially after everything i put you through.

Victoria: It’s totally different because you are a very good man, despite all your flaws.

Billy: Which are legion.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Yeah. Yes, they are.

Billy: [ Exhales sharply ] Yeah, we joke and we laugh a little bit, but it’s true. It’s taken me a long time to deal with some of my more stubborn demons.

Victoria: Oh, well, at least you acknowledge them and decided that you want to change your life, and now you’re doing the work to make it happen.

Billy: I’m trying my best.

Victoria: You know, we might disagree a lot and we might butt heads from time to time, but i know that when it really matters…

Billy: You can count on me. You can trust me with anything. Be ready for whatever life throws your way.

Rey: Chelsea, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you. What did I say?

Chelsea: Yes, all the right things.

Rey: Those are good tears?

Chelsea: Yeah. [ Chuckles ] Yeah, I just — I can’t tell you how many times I feel like I’m failing connor, you know? Like he deserves better than me. I just love him so much.

Rey: I can tell.

Chelsea: I just feel like I’m always doing something wrong. You know? I just want to give him all of the love and care, nurture him so much. It just seems like it’s never enough.

Rey: You know what I see when I look at him? A happy, healthy kid.

Chelsea: Despite his mom.

Rey: Because of his mom.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] Well [Sniffles] I don’t think anyone has ever felt that connor was the lucky one to have me, but when you say it like that, i actually start to believe it, just a little.

Rey: Yeah, believe it a lot. You are raising a happy, funny, talented kid. You’re doing a great job.

Chelsea: Well, thanks, rey. You are just what I needed today.

[ Chuckles ] One day, I hope I can return the favor.

Rey: I didn’t look at it as a favor. I enjoy talking to you. You got a big heart. You’re fun, and you are completely unpredictable.

[ Chuckles ] In a nice way.

Chelsea: Well, I feel the same way about you. Minus the unpredictable part.

[ Sighs ] Thanks so much for meeting me here.

Allie: Yeah, of course. Um…I hope there isn’t a problem. The house is in very good condition.

Taylor: Oh, it’s a lovely place. My realtor told me everything was in satisfactory condition.

Allie: Okay, so would you like me to give you a personal tour, tell you about some of the quirks of the house?

Taylor: I think I can find my way on my own.

Allie: Okay, then I’m not sure what else there is to say. So why is it that you wanted to meet with me in person?

Jack: Allie, I want you to know I would never force any kind of a relationship on you. I recently lost my mother. I have some idea of the enormity of what you’re dealing with. None of it is easy.

Allie: I appreciate you saying that.

Jack: Thank you for this. I hope you find peace soon. I wish you well in all of your endeavors.

Allie: If you’re ever back in la in the future, maybe we could, um, get together or something. Go for coffee.

Jack: I would like that very much.

Phyllis: Okay, well, now that traci and billy are gone and it’s just us, I’d like to be brutally honest with you.

Jack: I would expect nothing less from you.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] Listen, I, um… how do I say… I know that traci has the best of intentions when it comes to her and her grand-niece. I get it. Um…but sometimes, you know, the miss manners approach, it’s — it’s not the best way to go. I’m just saying, you got to throw caution to the wind.

Jack: I know that’s always been your approach.

Phyllis: Well, that’s your approach, too. I mean, traci wasn’t there. She didn’t see the pain in that girl’s eyes.

Jack: But you did.

Phyllis: You did, too. If you want to help this girl, you can. It’s your granddaughter. I mean, you don’t want to stand back, do you?

Jack: You might be right. I can’t expect allie to make the first move — that’s up to me.

Phyllis: Yes, it is. It’s up to you. So let’s book the jabot jet. I’ll meet you at the airport. We’ll be in la in no time.

Lily: Oh, good, you’re back. I have news.

Billy: Okay. Judging by that smile on your face, this could be something good.

Lily: Yeah, guess.

Billy: Guess.

Billy: Um, you discovered a way to make no-calorie chocolate.

Lily: Uh, no, I wish, but no.

Billy: Okay, I think I have it here. Um…you’re launching a space exploration division with chancellor because all the big tech companies are doing it and you would design a much cooler rocket.

Lily: Oh, my god, you’re not even trying to guess. Just guess, come on!

Billy: I don’t want to guess. I just want to know because then I can kiss you and celebrate.

Lily: [ Laughs ]

Chelsea: I have to admit, I was surprised to hear from you.

Nate: Yeah, well, when i picked up the phone to call you, I kind of surprised myself. How have you been?

Chelsea: Really good. Really good. I’ve been spending a lot of time with connor and creating this new clothing brand with chloe. It’s keeping me busy.

Nate: Well, that’s great. Well, when it launches, I’m sure elena will pick up a few pieces.

Chelsea: There are several that she would look fabulous in.

Nate: Well, I will tell her to keep an eye out for them.

Chelsea: Mm-hmm. I’m excited about this next chapter for myself. Although it is…it’s tricky. Being back here brings up a lot of memories.

Nate: Yeah, I can only imagine. And I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable by asking you to meet me here.

Lily: Well, I think it’s great, and I’m really, really proud of you. And I think that you should take advantage of the enthusiasm and put out episode 2.

Billy: Mm, yeah, well, therein lies the dilemma, because, uh…I’m not sure i have anything else to say.

Chelsea: As you can see, not much has changed since you last lived here.

Nate: Yeah, I can see.

Chelsea: I’m grateful that you’re considering moving back in. I had a buyer all lined up and he flaked at the last minute. It’s nice of you to consider buying an apartment from a former poisoner.

Nate: No, you’ve owned up to your mistake, and it seems like rey’s gotten past it, as well, so I can’t hold it against you either, even though rey was my patient.

Chelsea: Rey’s pretty special. He’s pretty special. Most people would want me locked up for what I did to him, but he’s willing to give me a second chance. I’ll forever be thankful for that.

Nate: Mm.

[ Exhales sharply ]

Chelsea: So…what’s the verdict? Are you in?

[ Knock on door ]

Devon: Hey.

Chelsea: Devon, hey, come in.

Devon: I thought I heard nate’s voice in here. What are you doing?

Nate: Um…how would you like to be neighbors again?

Jack: Not so fast. We’re not gonna just drop everything and take off for california.

Phyllis: Why not?

Jack: Because I’m not ready to throw caution that far to the wind. Look, I want more than anything to bring allie into this family, but I want to think this whole thing through. Look, this is a delicate situation.

Phyllis: Oh, alright. You don’t want her to feel like she’s being ambushed, right?

Jack: Exactly.

Phyllis: Oh.

Jack: Maybe you can help me find a way to approach her that doesn’t come off as pushy. I don’t want to scare her away.

Phyllis: Alright, okay. I mean, can we get her to come to genoa city anytime soon?

Jack: How are we gonna pull that off?

Phyllis: I don’t know, we just concoct some story that you have something of keemo’s —

Jack: No, no, no, no, I am trying to get her to trust me and my family. I don’t want to start a potential future relationship with her on a lie.

Phyllis: A lie — yeah, that would be bad.

Jack: No, you know what? I think I’m just gonna follow her lead on this. Take her up on the offer she made the last time we were with her.

Phyllis: Oh, having coffee, okay in la. Are you going to la anytime soon?

Jack: Well, I don’t have anything on the schedule, but god knows jabot has business in california.

Phyllis: No better time than the present. Seems like you can hop on that plane after all.

Jack: Not so fast. I’m gonna reach out to her, tell her I’m gonna be in la for a day or two, that I’d like to take her up on that coffee, and she’s got a couple days to think about it. And we’ll see what she says and we’ll go based on what she decides.

Phyllis: Oh, that’s nice. That’s a solid plan. A short-term event on neutral territory, right? It’s good. Don’t be pushy, no pressure.

Taylor: Forgive me if I gave you any cause for concern. I just wanted to meet the previous owner. I was curious why someone would want to sell such a nice home in this terrific neighborhood.

Allie: I have my own apartment near school now, and my dad was living here until he recently… he passed away.

Taylor: Oh, I’m — I’m so sorry to hear that. You have my sympathies. Do you have other family?

[ Cellphone rings ]

Allie: Jack. Hi. I’m steve.

Devon: Ah, so you and elena want to move in here after all the work you’ve done on your new house?

Nate: All that work is the reason why elena and I have been talking about moving. You know, after one repair job is done, another problem pops up. Contractor is there so much, i know his entire life story.

Chelsea: Well, I’ll let you two talk. Um…but, nate, just so you know, I am an eager seller. Bye.

Devon: See ya.

Nate: Look, I know you weren’t too happy when I sold this place and moved out, considering that I inherited it from neil, but maybe I can make up for that mistake now.

Devon: Yeah, I’m — I’ve gotten past that. But…no, you won’t get any pushback from me at all. Does this move have anything to do with what’s been bugging you lately? That “bad judgment call” you talked about at the coffee house? ‘Cause it seemed like it was more than just you turning down locke’s job offer.

Nate: Yeah, I’m not sure how that judgment call’s gonna play out. There could be consequences down the road. But I can’t worry about that. I have to move forward and live my life.

Devon: Right. Okay, well, hey, I’m always here to talk to if you want.

Nate: Thank you, but the last thing I want to do is drag you into this mess. It’s better for you not to know. But what I would like to talk to you about is this idea of me joining you and lily. Is this merger really happening?

Devon: Yeah, looks like it.

Nate: And is there really a place for me inside this family business?

Jack: Hi, allie. How are you? I’ve been thinking of you a lot lately.

Allie: I’m hanging in there. I’m a little surprised that you called.

Jack: Actually, I’m a little surprised to be contacting you so soon. I may have mentioned my company does a lot of business in california, and, well, it looks like I’m gonna need to make a trip out there, so I thought maybe I’d take you up on your offer for a cup of coffee or maybe we could grab dinner. No pressure at all.

Allie: [ Sighs ] Jack, I’m not sure. I had assumed that our next meeting wouldn’t be for a while.

Jack: Okay, I understand. Um, you know, I won’t be coming out for a day or two. That’ll give you some time to think about it, and you just tell me what you decide.

Allie: I will.

Jack: Okay, I won’t keep you any longer. It’s great to hear your voice. I hope to see you soon. You take care.

Allie: Goodbye, jack.

Jack: Goodbye, allie.

Phyllis: That’s okay. I mean, she didn’t say yes, but on the positive side, she didn’t say no either.

Taylor: I don’t mean to pry, but is everything alright?

Allie: Yeah. Just some family issues.

Taylor: [ Sighs ] Well, I can relate to that. Unfortunately, I’ve had to deal with plenty of those myself. I’ve…been hurt more times than I can say. But it’s important to have family to turn to when things get rough. I mean, take it from someone who has survived more than you can imagine. You have less time than you think to make amends. And regret is…it’s a hard thing to live with once it’s too late to connect.

Lily: I’m sorry, you don’t have anything more to say? I find that very hard to believe.

Billy: I guess what I’m saying is that I, you know, i went for it on the first podcast. I dove head-first and I went deep, and a lot of that pent-up pain went away. I mean, I talked about delia and I talked about the good and bad things that happened since her death. I talked about making it through and coming out the other side in a positive place. What else do I have to say? I mean, where do I go from that?

Lily: What do you mean? You have so much more to share. I mean, you find ways to keep me fascinated every day.

Billy: Yeah, you have to say that because I live with you and you love me. Not everyone loves me the way you do.

Lily: Look, you have many more stories to tell. Good, bad, lessons learned. Paths not taken. You know, and I understand if you don’t want to keep talking about the past, but billy abbott always has something to say.

Billy: Yeah, but do people want to hear it? That’s what I’m not so sure about.

Lily: Look, do not give up so easily, okay? I mean, not only has the response been positive, but i think it’s had a really positive effect on you.

Billy: You think so?

Lily: Yeah. I think that you’re in a better mood, you know? You’re more focused at work. You’re more energized.

Billy: Mm-hmm.

Lily: And I don’t know, maybe I’m being selfish, but I would love more of this good thing.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Billy: Let it ring.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: Don’t answer it.

Lily: Oh, god, it might be one of your adoring fans. Let’s see who it is. Hold on.

Devon: Hey.

Lily: Hello.

Devon: Hope it’s not a bad time.

Lily: No, come on in.

Devon: Yeah?

Lily: Yeah.

Devon: I was hoping to talk to you and billy about the merger.

Billy: Uh, yeah, that’s — that’d be great.

Devon: I figure that we can hash out exactly how the companies are gonna work together and find a place for nate to fit in. I’m hoping to convince him to come on board.

Lily: Well, I am very glad that you asked.

Nate: What is that little smile between you two about?

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Because I think I came up with a plan that all of us can agree on. When tired, achy feet make your whole body want to stop,

Lily: So I’ve been filling billy in on some of my ideas.

Billy: She has quite the vision for this merged corporation.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] So I’m thinking that we need to consolidate and give chancellor-winters a sharper, more two-fold focus.

Devon: Huh. That’s interesting. Tell me more.

Lily: Well, I think that we keep the entertainment and media division under hamilton-winters, and chancellor would focus on merchandise, ancillary products, commercial real estate, such as, you know, theaters, concert venues, hotels, to support the entertainment half.

Devon: Right. Yeah, I mean, that makes complete sense to me. Our resources would feed each other and give our consumers a full package.

Lily: Yeah. So do you approve?

Devon: Absolutely, I approve. Yeah, it’s a corporate match made in heaven.

Taylor: Family is the most precious thing we have in this world. I wish to this day I had more relatives that I could turn to now. Oh. I’m sorry. I’m sorry, I’m afraid I’m touching on things that you might not want to share with a stranger like myself. Oh, that’s always been my problem. I just feel so at ease around people, and then I just start chatting away like we’re old friends.

Allie: No, it’s okay. Even though you don’t know much about my situation, it’s actually kind of comforting to hear that from someone who seems to understand what I’m going through.

Taylor: Mm. Well, I’m no stranger to loss, and my heart goes out to anyone in that kind of pain. And losing a parent, that has to be one of the hardest blows life has to offer. Allie, you must be feeling so lost and alone without your father.

Allie: You have no idea.

Taylor: [ Sighs ] Forgive me, but I couldn’t help but overhear you on the phone. You were speaking with someone named jack, was it? Well, maybe you shouldn’t have put this person off. I mean, perhaps you could use some family right now.

Allie: Why would you say that jack is my family?

Taylor: Oh, well, I just — i just assumed because you said that the call was about family issues.

Allie: Yeah, the situation with jack is really complicated.

Taylor: What family isn’t complicated? But if this family member could be someone you could lean on or could offer you companionship or even support, well, isn’t that what you need right now?

Phyllis: So thank you for bringing me here to get my guacamole fix.

Jack: Hang it up. I’ve known you too long to fall for that old trick.

Phyllis: What trick?

Jack: Well, it’s pretty obvious you coerced me into coming here with you as a distraction.

Phyllis: From what? Empanadas. They have chicken empanadas — look at that. That’s great. I talked to summer earlier. She said that harrison has mastered knowing more italian words than she.

Jack: Why am I not surprised to hear that? My grandson is a bright little boy. I wonder where he gets that.

Phyllis: I wonder where he gets it. She also told me that she found a replacement for me for the marketing job at marchetti.

Jack: A replacement for you? Impossible.

Phyllis: I know that’s impossible, right?

Jack: You have any regrets about not going to milan to work with her?

Phyllis: Um, no, I actually don’t, because if I was in milan, then I wouldn’t have been able to — to go on that great adventure with you to los angeles.

Jack: I wholeheartedly agree. That trip to la would have been far lonelier, far more difficult if you had not been there for me as my constant supporter and my loyal counsel.

Phyllis: And I really want to thank you for letting me talk you into taking those texts seriously.

Jack: I owe you big time, red.

Phyllis: You don’t owe me anything. I’m glad to help. Hi, my name is cherrie.

Billy: It’s a mogul-level idea from the most brilliant ceo I know.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Thank you. Well, here’s what I’m thinking, is that you handle the entertainment side, we’ll handle the merchandise and hospitality divisions, and, you know, we’ll interact, we’ll share resources, but while we maintain autonomy over our respective divisions.

Devon: You know I love the sound of that very much. But I’ll be open to your ideas, for sure.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Well, you might regret saying that since I have opinions about everything.

Billy: Yeah, right before you got here, her opinion of me was that I never shut up.

Devon: [ Chuckles ] Well, I’m sure I’ll have plenty of opinions about your side of things, too.

Lily: That’s fine. I look forward to hearing it all.

Devon: What do we think that jill’s gonna feel about this and the rest of the board members? ‘Cause I’m not sure they’re gonna be too excited about this consolidation aspect.

Lily: Well, actually, i thought about that, and we spoke with jill and she’s in full support of this.

Devon: Really?

Lily: And she has full confidence that we’ll gain support from the board, too.

Billy: We basically have unanimous approval, so it’s full speed ahead.

Lily: Yeah, well, first, I do want to ask you, nate — I mean, how do you feel about being a part of all of this?

Nate: Well, given recent circumstances, I’m ready for a new beginning. Clean slate. It’s just a question of exactly where I would fit in your new corporate structure.

Devon: You want to be my coo?

Nate: [ Exhales sharply ] Well — [ Chuckles ] Okay. Uh…I think you have a little too much faith in your cousin’s business skills.

Devon: No, I don’t think so. I disagree with that completely. We know you’re smart, you studied business, you’ve been running the entire surgery department at the hospital for a while now. I know that admin work isn’t easy to do. And you’re already on the board of hamilton-winters.

Nate: Yeah, but that’s just me offering my advice. That’s a whole lot different than me actually doing the work.

Devon: Still, though, man. Still. I’m very confident that you can handle it.

Lily: Yeah, I mean, honestly, your familiarity with the operations of hamilton-winters can only help.

Devon: Absolutely. Absolutely. And listen, if any part of our history is keeping you from saying yes, just look at this as another opportunity to put it all behind us. Can we count you in?

Elena: Are you serious, another three weeks for the part? But you just said that two weeks ago.

[ Chuckles ] Honestly, I’m growing a little impatient here.

[ Cellphone chimes ] One second. Um, I’m gonna have to call you back. I have a better offer. Thanks.

Allie: [ Sighs ]

Taylor: I hope I haven’t overstepped.

Allie: No. Actually, the fresh perspective is really helpful. All my life I’ve had my dad to turn to for advice, and now he’s suddenly gone.

Taylor: Mm.

Allie: And I have so many questions that I wish he could answer.

Taylor: I can only imagine how tough that must be, but you seem like a very smart and resourceful young woman. And I’m sure you’ll know where to turn when you need to. And on that last bit of unsolicited advice, I will shut my mouth.

Allie: No, thank you, taylor. Look, I really appreciate everything you had to say. You know, I’m glad that we got the chance to meet. It’s just — it’s so nice to know that my father’s house is going to someone as kind and as sensitive as you are. Is there anything else you wanted to know about the house?

Taylor: Oh, uh, my realtor mentioned the shower knobs are hard to turn.

Allie: Yes. They can be tricky. You need to push and then turn. I can show you how they work.

Taylor: Oh, I’ll follow you in just a minute. I just need to respond to a text.

Jack: I may not owe you, but lunch is my treat. I insist.

Phyllis: You insist, really? I’m not opposed to you buying me a meal ever, ever.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Jack: Is it too much to hope that maybe allie has sent a positive response so soon.

Phyllis: Only one way to find out.

Jack: Interesting.

Phyllis: What’s interesting? What’d she say?

Jack: It isn’t from allie, it’s from our friendly anonymous texter. “Doing what I can to help. I think allie might be more receptive soon.” It’s my 5:52 woke-up-like-this migraine medicine.

Phyllis: I just want to find out who this texter is. Why are they so hell-bent on keeping their identity a secret?

Jack: So much for a distracting meal. Best-laid plans.

Phyllis: Just driving me crazy.

Jack: Please take it easy. Your efforts to distract me were successful. As far as this new text goes, I’m looking at it as a step in the right direction.

Phyllis: Really? Okay, you’re very kind. I’m not as kind. I just have a hard time thinking that someone is lovely, you know, when they’re hiding their identity behind a cellphone.

Jack: Okay, maybe the anonymity is an important, necessary means to their helping us out.

Phyllis: Well, but why do they want to help? Why? I mean, why do they have a vested interest in making sure that you and allie become closer?

Jack: I am not going to start questioning their motives. Right now they’re doing me a huge favor. I wouldn’t know I had a granddaughter if not for his or her texts telling me to get to california in the first place.

Phyllis: Oh, it’s a her.

Jack: Wait, how do you know that?

Phyllis: [ Scoffs ] Um…’cause I’m a woman and I know these things, and it’s the tone of the texts. It’s definitely a her.

Jack: Okay, you can take your detective hat off. Obviously, this person does not want to reveal their identity. I worry if we push too hard, if we dig too deep, it’s gonna tick her off — if, indeed, it is a her — and the messages stop and so does the help for our cause.

Phyllis: Alright. Okay. Can we just agree that this last text came from los angeles? Yeah, okay, it probably came from los angeles. Okay, so I can get a special tracker on all the cellphone towers t–

Jack: You’re not — you’re not hearing me. I want you to stop. I don’t want to scare this person away. Let them have their anonymity, at least for now. My priority is allie.

Phyllis: Okay, sure.

Jack: This latest text gives me new hope. Can we just enjoy that for now?

Allie: So remember, push, and then quickly turn the faucet on. The water will come out strong. It might even be the best shower you ever had.

Taylor: [ Chuckles ] Thanks for the tip and the demonstration.

Allie: My pleasure. You should know how everything in your new home works.

Taylor: Well, I have taken up enough of your time. I really appreciate your patience.

Allie: When do you think you’ll be officially moving in?

Taylor: I’m — I’m not sure yet. I have a few family issues of my own to deal with first, and that will determine my next move.

Allie: [ Chuckles ] Now you’ve got me curious.

Taylor: Hmm. Well, let’s just say that at the moment, this house is sort of a safety net for me. It’s important to have that, you know? Don’t ever underestimate the importance of having a place to land, just in case.

[ Knock on door ]

Elena: Hello? Nate? I hope I’m in the right place.

Nate: You are most definitely in the right place.

Elena: What’s going on? Did you rent out chelsea’s place fro the night?

Nate: I’m hoping to do a lot more than that.

[ Sighs ] The penthouse is ours if you want it. Look, I know the construction at the place has been driving you crazy. Hell, it’s been making me nuts, too. So why not move back into this building?

Elena: [ Chuckles ] Just like that?

Nate: Well, we already know we have great neighbors here. And family dinners would be easy to do with devon and amanda across the hall. What? You hate the idea of living here? (Clucking noises)

Elena: Just, um…

Nate: [ Sighs ] Look, I know how much you wanted to make our home together special, and it just wasn’t happening at that house. But if it’s too awkward for you to live across the hall from the apartment you used to share with devon, I understand.

Elena: I mean, it’s certainly crossed my mind. But I think we’ve come a long way since then, and I have been working on rebuilding my friendships with devon and amanda.

Nate: But I don’t want to reopen any old wounds. And if it helps, I spoke to devon. He says he’d love it if we were neighbors.

Elena: He’s all about having family close by.

Nate: But I don’t want you to feel pressured. You need to feel 100% comfortable in your own home. So if you don’t want to live here, I can give the keys back.

Elena: No, nate, um… I think I love the idea of moving here. I think we can finally put that construction nightmare behind us.

Nate: Mm.

Elena: And just focus on the joy of living, just the two of us, with no strangers walking in and out of the house to fix things.

Elena: That’s an interruption I can handle. But I do have to ask — is this what you really want? Or does this have something to do with what’s been going on?

Nate: [ Sighs ] Honestly? I’m determined to move past this whole ashland situation, and this is a part of that.

Elena: Okay. So is this your way of outrunning your demons?

Nate: No, I’m simply looking for a clean slate. This could be exactly what i need to hit the reset button.

Elena: Okay. Okay. I mean, if this is going to help you cope, then who am I to fight against living in this beautiful penthouse?

[ Chuckles ]

Nate: Yes, I feel like this is the right move. Reclaiming an inheritance that i should have never given up in the first place.

Elena: [ Sighs ]

Nate: I think neil left me this place for a reason.

Elena: Wait, you said that there were two surprises.

Nate: Mm.

Elena: And I am clearly blown away by the first, and almost afraid to ask about the second.

Elena: [ Gasps ]

[ Chuckles ]

Lily: I cannot believe this is really happening.

Billy: From the second you came up with the idea on how to structure the merger of these two companies, I knew it was brilliant.

Lily: I mean, I wasn’t sure if devon would agree, but now that he and nate are on board, it’s all coming together.

Billy: I didn’t question it for a second. I knew you were gonna pull this off.

Lily: Man, all the family i have in genoa city will be working together.

Billy: Mm-hmm.

Lily: I mean, I know, for you, it’s something that you take for granted, even rebelled against because jabot has always been a part of your life, but for me, it really means a lot.

Billy: It should. It really should. And if my siblings were easy to get along with, like devon and nate, maybe I would’ve never left the family business.

Lily: Well, I mean, we’ve also had difficult moments.

Billy: Yeah, but it’s not the same, and you know it. I mean, you all handled your issues like mature, rational adults. The abbotts are petty and stubborn.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Well, I will probably ask you to draw on your jabot experience whenever business disagreements become personal.

Billy: You got it. But I have to warn you, I’m always gonna be on your side, not only because I love you, but because the time I’ve spent working with you, I’ve realized you’re always right.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] That’s true. Thank you for having so much faith in me.

Billy: A whole box of jack’s favorites? You are spoiling him.

Traci: I never hear you complain when you’re the one I’m spoiling.

Billy: I’m not gonna complain about pastries. Are you kidding me? In fact, I’m gonna have a couple of those because I plan to go up to the house and see jack after this.

Traci: Oh, that’s perfect. Then there’ll be plenty. Don’t worry. It’s great that you’re gonna go by the house. Jack’s dying to tell you about his trip to los angeles.

Billy: What’s going on? I mean, last thing I heard is there were a bunch of letters that keemo never sent to him, but I haven’t heard anything since.

Traci: Uh…well, it really is jack’s story to tell, but i can say this. He has found some really surprising information about keemo’s life, and I’m — I’m so hoping that this is going to help him eventually heal.

Billy: Well, that sounds intriguing.

Phyllis: Any word yet?

Jack: From allie, nope.

Phyllis: No, the texter.

Jack: Not a word.

Phyllis: Not a word — that is so weird. They send you a text saying, “we’ll see what we can do,” and then nothing.

Jack: Radio silence.

Phyllis: That is strange and torturous. You seem to be handling it well.

Jack: Oh, if I don’t seem stressed, I assure you, I can’t seem to think of anything else.

Allie: I’m glad you found a buyer so quickly and at higher than the asking price. It’s just that this feels… abrupt.

Tanya: Just take your time.

Allie: Thanks. You know, I was here last night, walking through the rooms, talking to myself. I’m — I’m glad to have your company today.

Tanya: Well, I’m a full-service realtor. If you need someone to listen, I can do that.

Allie: Thank you. It’s just that I spent most of my life in this house, you know? Hard to say goodbye to it.

Tanya: I understand. You know, you’re lucky, though. This is a cash offer. There aren’t gonna be any complications. There’s no appraisal, no inspections. This is one of the simplest transactions I’ve ever had. Your buyer only has one condition to close the sale.

Allie: What’s that?

Tanya: She insisted on meeting you.

Ashland: Well, how are you, my, uh…friend? No? Okay, well, I realize that, at the moment, we’re not in a good place, but I’m hoping once the truth comes out, we’ll be able to fix that.

Nate: You and I were never friends. I was just someone useful to you while you conned victoria and her family.

Ashland: That’s not true.

Nate: Don’t play me like that. It sounds like you didn’t take the advice I gave you to come clean to victoria.

Ashland: Well, actually, I’m just waiting until I can give her the entire story. See, not just that I was set up, but who’s behind it. I know you are skeptical that i was framed, but that is the truth. So my plan is to use all the resources I have at my disposal to find out who’s responsible and make them pay. I just a little more time.

Nate: I’m sorry, ashland. Your time’s up.

Victoria: What is this, an ambush?

Nikki: Darling, calm down.

Victoria: I will not calm down. I can see what’s going on here. It’s not a coincidence that you’re here, and then my father and my brothers show up. This is obviously a planned and coordinated attack on my marriage. You wanted ashland out of here. You wanted to get me alone so that he couldn’t defend himself against the allegations.

Victor: Sweetheart, true. We want to talk to you without him.

Nick: We all know what would happen if ashland were here. We’ve seen it before. He’d make a bunch of excuses and allegations against us, but we know the facts.

Phyllis: Okay, okay, so you’re finally curious about who lured you to la.

Jack: These latest texts raised a lot of questions. Whoever this is has some connection with allie, or at least the means to reach out to her.

Phyllis: Hmm. Well, you know, that text sort of implied a little more than that. You know, it implied that they were the ones who were gonna reconnect you with allie and get her to accept you as her grandfather.

Jack: I think you’re reading a lot into five words.

Phyllis: Oh, maybe, maybe.

Jack: It crossed my mind it could be mai, keemo’s sister.

Phyllis: Oh, okay, do you have her information?

Jack: I chased down her personal information and gave her a call today. She’s as confused by these texts as we are. She has nothing to do with this.

Phyllis: Does she have any idea who it could be?

Jack: No, they’re not close. She’s in saigon, allie’s in la, and they apparently communicate infrequently.

Phyllis: Mm. You’re back at square one.

Phyllis: So it would seem.

Phyllis: Well, keep going. I believe in you. You’re gonna get to the bottom of this.

Ashland: What exactly do you mean “my time’s up”?

Nate: I think you can figure it out.

Ashland: Did you go to the newmans with your accusations?

Nate: They have the right to know.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] You could’ve given me a little warning.

Nate: Why? Because you’ve been so upfront with me? The last thing I want to do is help you get away with this.

Ashland: I’m not trying to get away with anything.

Nate: Look, I’ve heard more than enough from you. It makes me sick that you used me and my position as a way to give your scam more credibility.

Elena: What’s going on here?

Nate: Ashland here is just finding out that his investment in me is not gonna pay off, and he’s not happy about it.

Ashland: I don’t know what he’s told you, but this is just a misunderstanding.

Elena: The hell it is. It was an elaborate scheme, and I can’t begin to tell you how disgusted I am at your behavior.

Ashland: Wow. I’ll save you the trouble. There’s someplace else I have to be.

Nate: [ Sighs ]

Elena: [ Scoffs ]

Victoria: I’m not a child. You can’t control me.

Victor: Sweetheart, i apologize for my harsh tone, but your brother’s right. We’re all here to support you. We want to help you get through a very tough challenge, as you’ve gotten through other challenges before. You’re a strong woman. We know that.

Victoria: That’s right, I am a strong woman.

Victor: Yes.

Victoria: Strong enough to stand up to all of you and ban you from my life, if that’s what it takes.

Nikki: You don’t mean that.

Victoria: It would be a last resort, but it seems to be the only way that I’m gonna make it clear to you that I’m not gonna fall for your strong-arm tactics. I’m not gonna be bullied by you.

Adam: Victoria, you are not being fair to your parents.

Victoria: Shut up. I don’t remember asking for your input at all. In fact, I can’t remember you ever even remotely supporting me.

Adam: We all have a vested interest in your situation. We want to find a way to handle it privately, discreetly.

Victoria: Right, so is that a threat? Are you saying if I don’t play along, you’re gonna go public with these accusations? You’re gonna try to smear my husband in the press?

Victor: Sweetheart, we are being very polite with you. Okay? So kindly watch your tone. Now, the last thing we want is for this to go public. We want to help you. You must know that ashland locke lied to you, lied to all of us, took advantage of our compassion and our big hearts.

Victoria: See, that’s what this is all about. It’s about the company. Control.

Nick: You really think dad would put you through this heartbreak just to regain control of the company.

Victoria: You know, it makes a lot more sense than what you’re all asking me to believe right now…that ashland doesn’t love me and he never did. I’m amber, I’ve lost 128 pounds with golo,

Billy: Okay, let’s head to the house. I’m dying to hear what jack learned in los angeles.

Traci: Not so fast, buster. I have something I want to tell you first.

Billy: Okay.

Traci: I listened to the first episode of your podcast last night.

Billy: Oh, gosh. And?

Traci: I found it very compelling. I really think you’ve got something here.

Billy: You’re just saying that because you’re —

Traci: No, no, no, because I’m biased? Well, yes, I’m biased, but I’m saying it because it was moving, billy. You talked about love and loss, and all of it was straight from the heart. It was so brave. I really think that people are gonna respond to this.

Billy: Yeah, wasn’t easy putting that out there, but the fact that there’s any positive response from it, especially from someone that I admire so much, that feels good. Thank you.

Traci: Mm-hmm. If you keep putting out episodes like that, you are going to find an audience.

Billy: I do owe you half the credit.

Traci: Mm. Me, why?

Billy: ‘Cause you gave me the advice about meditating, and i tried.

Traci: [ Chuckles ] I know you did. You talked about it in the podcast.

Billy: So you were listening.

Traci: I was listening. You’ve been reading my books for me for years. The least I can do is return the favor.

Billy: Well, it helped. You know, it really helped me relax and let the feelings kind of bubble to the surface. Putting it out there felt good, even if you were the only one that listened.

Traci: Well, I love hearing that, so let’s take some of this positivity over to jack. What do you say?

Billy: Let’s go.

Traci: Let’s go.

Elena: I don’t think I’ve ever seen you this angry before.

Nate: Because I am furious with both ashland and myself for not seeing through him earlier.

Elena: Look, I keep telling you, you have to give yourself a break. How could you have possibly known that he was lying about having a deadly disease? He put up a good front.

Nate: All true, but there were people that saw through him.

Elena: Who?

Nate: Billy. He told us before the wedding that victoria was making a mistake. He said ashland couldn’t be trusted, but we just thought he was being jealous.

Elena: Okay, so maybe he has better instincts than we did. But he also hired a team of investigative reporters to look into ashland’s past. He had more information than we did.

Nate: But that story that billy published should’ve been a clue. We dismissed it because the source recanted everything. I wanted to believe that, even if there was some truth in it, none of it was relevant to the person who ashland is today. I should’ve been more skeptical, asked more questions.

Elena: Okay, okay, look. You can keep going down this path, trying to find the clues after the fact, but the thing that matters is that when it counted, you did the right thing.

Nate: I thought you were uncomfortable with me looking into his medical records.

Elena: I mean, sure, yes, i had qualms with your methods. But once you found proof, you took a stance. And most people in your position would’ve covered for ashland to protect themselves, but you exposed him to the newmans.

Nate: It’s clear ashland was hoping I’d sweep this under the rug. He thought I could be bought off with some flattery and donations to the hospital and a job offer. It’s insulting.

Elena: Hey. It sounds like he was even more wrong about you than you were about him.

Nikki: Darling, no one is saying ashland doesn’t love you.

Victoria: That’s exactly what you’re all saying. You’re claiming that ashland lied to me so that he could get his hands on the company because I’m too much of a dimwit to see it happening.

Nikki: No. No one is questioning your intelligence.

Victoria: This conversation is so disrespectful. I mean, can you look at me with a straight face and say that dad would not intentionally break my heart? He had me arrested on my wedding day.

Victor: Sweetheart, wait a minute. That’s ancient history. Besides that, you know that i was right about billy boy abbott.

Nick: What about me, vick? You honestly think I have an ulterior motive?

Victoria: [ Scoffs ] No. No, you don’t, but you have been very upfront about your dislike for ashland from the very start. You’ve been trashing his character for months, and now dad’s given you a reason to say that you’ve been right all along. It must feel amazing. I mean, every one of you here has a reason to want ashland out of the picture.

Nikki: What about me, victoria? I don’t have a reason to want ashland gone. Are you gonna accuse me of betraying you? When hurting feet make you want to stop,

Elena: I know you wish you’d caught on to ashland sooner, but you discovered the truth before you quit your job and before you signed a contract with him.

Nate: I am grateful for that, but, damn, I was close to doing both those things.

Elena: But you still dodged a bullet.

Nate: I did, but…even though I won’t be working for him, he could still find a way to come after me. He has a reputation for seeking revenge.

Elena: Yes, but we talked about this. The newmans are gonna be so glad that you stepped up the way that you did. They’re gonna have your back.

Nate: You’re right. Victor did assure me.

Elena: And you don’t need to worry about ashland trying to ruin your career. Lily and devon want to bring you onboard when they merge their companies. See? You have people in your corner.

Nate: I know, I know. I’m lucky. And the more I think about it, the less I’m concerned for myself. At this point, the person I’m worried about the most is victoria.

Nikki: I have always been your biggest ally, here at the office and in your private life. You can’t say that I haven’t been supportive of your relationship with ashland. I helped plan your wedding.

Victoria: I remember.

Nikki: I was so thrilled to see you in love and finally happy. I just loved seeing the two of you together. I would hold my breath whenever he had to go in for some more tests because I would pray that the two of you would have more time together. And you have to know that that was all very sincere.

Victoria: I know, mom. I know. I know that you’ve always been on our side. Just seems that somehow dad has convinced you that ashland’s been deceiving me this whole time.

Nikki: I didn’t want to believe it. I thought that the things he was uncovering could be explained as coincidences or misunderstandings.

Victoria: That’s it, that’s exactly what they are.

Nikki: Well, I’m sorry, darling, but I can’t believe that any longer. The evidence is overwhelming.

Victoria: [ Scoffs ] Evidence? How can you be convinced by a shaky video of some doctor with some outlandish story? And those bank statements — i mean, what do they even prove? That there was some large deposits from an obscure company of ashland’s? I mean, it’s circumstantial at best. At worst, it’s completely made up. I’m so sorry, but it’s not convincing.

Nick: What about michael’s disappearance? We have not heard from him since he sent back those bank statements from peru.

Victoria: I know, it’s awful. I mean, it explains why he hasn’t returned any of my calls, but that has nothing to do with ashland. I mean, there’s probably 1,000 explanations.

Victor: Sweetheart, you are totally correct in assuming that this wouldn’t convict anyone in court.

Victoria: That’s right.

Victor: You need evidence beyond the shadow of a doubt.

Victoria: I do.

Victor: We have that. It’s what convinced your mother, and hopefully will convince you. Not from some obscure doctor in south america, but from someone that we all trust.

Nick: It’s from nate, vick. I went to him for help. He also trusted ashland. He wanted to see if his friend was telling him the truth. So he took a look at his medical records.

Victor: Do you know what we have found?

Jack: Oh, you got that look on your face, like you’ve got an idea and you won’t let it go.

Phyllis: I just think it’s all weird, whoever’s leaving all of these bread crumbs in los angeles. Its’ just strange. I mean, why did they want to stay anonymous? It makes me uneasy.

Jack: Could it be as simple as they know it’s none of their business and they don’t want to get more involved?

Phyllis: They’re involved. They know so many things about you, jack.

Jack: Tell me something, do you think I’m making a mistake, letting whoever this is serve as an intermediary between allie and me?

Phyllis: Well, I mean, there’s nothing you can do now. I mean, they already are.

Jack: I could reach out to allie myself. I’ve thought of that. But she made it very clear she needs space. It’s — it’s too early. I don’t want to come off pushy. She already knows that her father wanted nothing to do with me. I’m sure she’s a little leery about the grandfather who came out of nowhere.

Phyllis: Okay, well, don’t do that to yourself. You’re a good, kind man. She should be so lucky. This is the best thing that’s ever happened to her.

[ Door opens ]

Jack: Hello?

Billy: Hey, jack.

Jack: Oh, hey.

Traci: Oh.

Billy: Brought some of your favorite pastries.

Traci: Oh, phyllis, I, um, didn’t know you’d be here.

Billy: It’s a good thing we brought a box.

Jack: Phyllis is here helping me determine how best to approach allie.

Billy: I’m sorry. Who’s allie? (Cyclist) why is ice t in a speed walking crew?

Tanya: I just got a text from the buyer. She’s on her way over. I’m gonna run to the car, get the hard copies of the documents, and you’ll both sign, she’ll give you the check, we’ll give her the keys.

[ Sighs ] She loves this house.

Allie: [ Sighs ] Dad…this place made me feel safe. And loved. And understood. This place is home. But, dad, now I know that it wasn’t the house. It was always you, dad. Without you, this place just doesn’t feel the same anymore. It’s just four walls.

[ Sighs ] Without you… I don’t really have a home anymore.

Billy: You have a granddaughter in california? That’s incredible. When is she coming out to visit us?

Jack: Well, the ball is in her court. She has my information, and she can reach out to me whenever she wants.

Billy: Okay. I mean, that doesn’t really sound like you. You’ve always been “the more, the merrier,” especially when it comes to family.

Phyllis: Well, jack didn’t really want to be pushy. She just lost her dad.

Billy: Yeah, I understand that, but doesn’t that mean she could use a little guidance?

Traci: Not if it seems like jack’s trying to take over her life.

Phyllis: You know, I don’t think she’s very close to her mom, so it seems like she’s alone in the world.

Jack: Look, I would like nothing better than to reach out and welcome her into this family. On her time. Look, I don’t want to make the same mistake I made with keemo. I realize now I pushed too hard when he was still grieving his mother, and our relationship never recovered.

Billy: Yeah, no, I understand that, but this is a different situation. I mean, keemo just lost his mother and he was angry and he was looking for someone to blame, and your history is painful. It’s not the same with allie. If phyllis is right, it sounds like she could use a little bit of support. I mean, to me, the mistake would be not reaching out to her.

Elena: I feel terrible for victoria, too. Do you think she knows the truth about ashland yet?

Nate: Well, victor didn’t seem like he was gonna sit on the information I gave him. He wanted her to see the evidence right away.

Elena: Imagine learning that the person you thought was your soulmate was deceiving you in the most profound way. I don’t know how she can trust anyone again.

Nate: And that’s what worries me. Victoria’s been through a lot. When I first came to town, she was just recovering from a relationship that had become physically abusive.

Elena: I didn’t know that.

Nate: Letting ashland into her heart was a leap of faith. And now this.

Elena: [ Sighs ] Well, I don’t even blame her for thinking that he adored her. I mean, it’s how it looked to me. Do you remember his vows in tuscany? They were so moving, and as much as I am disgusted by ashland, am I crazy to think that maybe there’s something real there? Maybe he developed some genuine feelings for victoria, even if it didn’t start out that way.

Nate: I doubt that. To lie to her the way that he did, knowing her history, any man that can do that isn’t capable of love.

Victor: Nate found that the scans taken at memorial of ashland after his heart attack showed nothing. No cancer. They were clear.

Victoria: That doesn’t mean anything. I mean [Scoffs] It’s a mistake. Maybe nate missed something.

Victor: Sweetheart, nate is a trained physician.

Victoria: Yes, dad, but he’s not an oncologist. Obviously, ashland has cancer. I mean, he underwent chemotherapy for months. Are you telling me that he would put himself through something like this as some part of a scam?

Nick: Nate also looked into ashland’s chemotherapy. There’s no record of any appointments. Ashland never underwent chemo, vick.

Victoria: [ Laughs ]

Nikki: Victoria. Victoria, victoria, stop.

Victoria: I’m sorry, but this is absolutely crazy. You’re all out of your minds. Of course ashland underwent chemo. I mean, I drove him to the hospital myself.

Nikki: Yes, but he never wanted you to go in and sit with him. You would drop him off and come right back to work.

Victoria: Mother, of course, it was very hard on him. He didn’t want to see me — see him that way.

Nick: So you never went in with him, you never registered him at the front desk of the oncology wing?

Victoria: No, no. Why would I do that, nicholas? Why? Why would I do that? But I know that he had the treatment. He would always be so sick afterwards. In fact, one time, nate had to bring him home because he wasn’t well enough to do it himself. So are you telling me right now that — that he was faking all of that?

Victor: Sweetheart, look at me. What other explanation can there be?

Victoria: I don’t know, dad. There could be several reasons. Maybe the hospital records were hacked or maybe somebody replaced the scans or the chemotherapy information.

Nick: Vick, come on. Does any of that sound even remotely plausible?

Victoria: I don’t know, okay? But I am gonna find out the answers on my own without any of you. Ashland was right, you’ve already all made up your minds. That’s fine, but I am done talking about this. Ashland and I, we’re leaving for tuscany immediately, where i will run the company on my own without any of you.

Adam: Victoria, victoria, you’re not going anywhere.

Phyllis: Billy agrees with me. You should reach out to allie and explain how you feel.

Traci: Mm, I don’t know. I think jack has been very wise to be cautious about this. Allie seems like a really sensitive young girl with a lot going on. I think she needs some time to sort things out.

Billy: Yeah, but she also needs support, right? I mean, there’s no one more supportive than jack.

Traci: Of course not. That’s true, but if that is the only reason that jack wants to connect with allie, that would be one thing, but jack is grieving, too, and…be honest. Don’t you have another motivation for wanting to reach out to allie? Isn’t it to find out more about keemo’s life and what you missed?

Jack: Yeah, there’s some truth to that.

Traci: Yeah.

Phyllis: I mean, so you should reach out to her, you know? She probably needs somebody to talk to about her dad, and you could keep keemo’s spirit alive.

Jack: You know, if that’s what she needs, she knows how to reach out to me. I just don’t think it’s fair for me to pressure her into making me feel better when she’s still dealing with so much pain.

Allie: [ Sighs ] Dad…am I just gonna have one-sided conversations like this with you for the rest of my life? Or is this just part of grief and something that I’ll move past?

[ Sighs ] I kind of regret coming here.

Tanya: Oh. Are you alright?

Allie: Yeah, I’m fine. I just — I have a thing, and i totally forgot about it. I know the buyer wanted to meet, but I can just —

Tanya: No, the deal depends on it.

Allie: Okay, well, she can — she can call, she can e-mail me, but I got to go.

Tanya: I came back in to tell you she’s already here.

Victoria: Get out of my way.

Adam: We’re not done here.

Victoria: Oh, I would say that we’ve been done for quite a while. You asked me to hear you out, so I listened. I listened to what you guys had to say. You told me what nate said, and, quite frankly, I’m disgusted that you would even drag him into this, but I’m not surprised. You’re trying to drive a wedge between ashland and anyone that cares about him, but it’s not gonna work.

Adam: Look, I know what you’re going through. I spent last year in the same spot. I was deceived and I was manipulated by someone that i loved, okay? And she was also faking a medical condition, so…

Victoria: Oh, my god, you are not actually comparing my husband with chelsea, the con artist?

Adam: There are similarities.

Victoria: Ashland is a billionaire who built his company from the ground up, and chelsea has been conning people her whole life.

Nick: Ashland has been lying about his identity his entire adult life, and he built this fortune on a fraudulent inheritance.

Victoria: Oh, come on, that’s totally different.

Nick: I’m just saying, he doesn’t own the moral high ground, vick. If chelsea’s a liar and a scammer, then so is he.

Adam: Look, victoria, the point is I could never imagine chelsea doing something like that to me. But eventually, when I looked at all the angles, I realized there could only be one person that was trying to frame me for poisoning rey. And I couldn’t wrap my head around it. I mean, I felt guilty even thinking it. But then, one day, she slipped up, and I realized that she was playing me. And everything changed in that moment, and that will happen if you go back to ashland. You’ll be in tuscany, trying to live your dream life, and then the truth will hit you that ashland is playing you. Because even the best con artists cannot keep up the charade every second of every day.

[ Knock on door ]

Ashland: Oh. Uh…what’s going on here?

Victoria: I was actually just leaving. I’ll explain to you what happened at home.

Victor: Wait a minute, you wanted ashland to have a chance to explain himself, okay?

Victoria: No, daddy, we’re gonna handle this in private.

Nikki: Why is that? You think that we won’t be fair or are you afraid that ashland won’t have a good explanation?

Ashland: What have they been telling you now?

Victoria: They — they told me that nate looked into your medical records. He was hoping to defend you from all of the allegations.

Ashland: And?

Victoria: And the scan from a year ago didn’t show any cancer. It didn’t show any — any chemotherapy appointments or treatment. I told them that it was a mistake. Was it?

Ashland: This is never going to end, is it? You are all determined to drive a wedge between victoria and me, no matter how much it hurts her. And you have the nerve to stand there and claim that you were acting out of concern.

Victor: You haven’t answered my question. Do you have an explanation for what nate found?

Ashland: It doesn’t matter what I say at this point. You don’t want to believe me.

Victoria: I want to believe you.

Ashland: I just spoke with nate. I don’t know what you all said to him, but he is definitely rattled. Victoria…it doesn’t matter what I say or how I defend myself against this attack, because there will be another and another and another, as long as we are together. I can’t do this. I can’t keep fighting endlessly, and you can’t turn your back on your family. I wish it was enough for you… to know that I love you with all my heart. Because your love means everything to me. You have changed my life. But this — this right here… this is obviously never going to work. I’m done trying.

Nikki: Oh, my darling.

Victoria: It’s true. Now I know that it’s true. He’s lying. He was lying.

[ Breathes shakily ]

Nikki: It’s alright, it’s alright.

Victoria: [ Crying ]

Nikki: I’m so sorry.

Victoria: [ Sobbing ] Why?

Traci: Jack, if you hold off on contacting allie now, you can change her mind later. You can reach out to her anytime — next week, next month, wait for the holidays, whatever. But if you push too hard and it backfires, you will never be able to fix that.

Jack: You make a good point.

Billy: You know, none of this really matters if this mystery texter convinces allie to reach out to you.

Phyllis: Yeah, I don’t think we should rely on the kindness of strangers.

Jack: Look, you said yourself we can’t control what this person does. So maybe I just have to hope for the best, and one day, maybe I’ll get to thank this person, whoever it is.

Nick: Yeah. Sounded urgent. What’s up?

Victor: I wanted to thank you for reaching out to nate.

Nick: Yeah. Did it do any good?

Victor: [ Sighs ] A world of it.

Nick: What’d he do?

Victor: He got a hold of ashland locke’s medical records, of the scans that were taken at memorial after his heart attack.

Nick: Did he find something?

Victor: He found nothing. The images are clear. There’s no sign of cancer. Ashland locke is the picture of health.

Nick: Well, that’s when he received his terminal diagnosis for cancer. What about all his appointments for treatment?

Victor: No appointments, no prescriptions, no chemotherapy.

Nick: Son of a bitch. You know, for him to lie about something like this just so he could manipulate victoria and get his hands on newman enterprises — there’s a special place in hell for somebody like this.

Victor: You got it. And since he refused to do the only decent thing he should have done — namely, to leave town — it’s imperative upon us to show victoria the evidence that she has been betrayed.

Nick: Well, whatever punishment he gets is too good for him. I sincerely hope victoria boots his ass out of the company and out of her life for good, and then he’ll get whatever karmic payback he deserves.

Victor: But you know a lot of this is now in victoria’s hands.

Nick: I’m guessing I know what the next move is. I’ll call in reinforcements.

Victor: [ Breathes deeply ]

Ashland: Ah. Good morning.

Victoria: You’re early.

Ashland: Yeah. Ah. I, uh — I’m actually surprised I beat you here. I thought we were gonna drive in together this morning.

Victoria: Oh, I’m sorry. I actually had some errands to run.

Ashland: Yeah, imagine my surprise when I came downstairs and you weren’t there.

[ Chuckles ]

Victoria: Is there something that you wanted to discuss?

Ashland: Well, actually, i was gonna ask you the same thing. I — I mean, the way you were tossing and turning last night.

Victoria: Oh. Was I? I hope I didn’t keep you up. Heavy is the head that wears the crown, right?

Ashland: Well, that’s kind of my point, actually. Um, you’re not alone in this anymore. We’re — we’re equal partners now. So whatever’s bothering you also would be bothering me.

Victoria: I am — I’m just beyond furious at my father for setting this in motion.

Ashland: I can see that.

Victoria: If word got out that you supposedly faked your cancer diagnosis, then —

Ashland: No, no, no, no. I have no intention of letting that happen.

Victoria: Oh?

Ashland: I know exactly what to do, something that will combat what your father is trying to do to us.

Elena: So, what do you think? Do you just want coffee? Or maybe we can split a pastry.

Nate: I’m not hungry, uh, but don’t let me stop you from getting something.

Elena: Hey, look, I know you’re still conflicted about what’s going on with ashland.

Nate: That’s an understatement. I felt like I had no other choice. But I’ve never violated someone’s medical privacy before. I didn’t just access the medical records of someone who was never my patient, but I shared the contents of those files with a third party.

Elena: I know you, nate. You wouldn’t have done it without good reason.

Nate: There was already evidence out there that ashland was lying about his condition. I informed the person whose family and business were directly affected by ashland’s deception.

Elena: So, do you wish you hadn’t given the evidence to victor? I mean, if you could do it all over again, would you change anything?

Nate: No. But I still can’t stop thinking about what could happen after this.

Elena: For the newmans or for ashland?

Nate: Not just them. It also changes everything for me.

Nikki: I just hope this new evidence is enough to change victoria’s mind about ashland.

Adam: Yeah. It’s one thing to try to explain away that doctor in peru’s bank statements, but good luck finding an excuse for cancer-free x-rays and nonexistent chemotherapy appointments.

Nikki: And then to have the gall to try to convince victoria that victor made it all up. He is trying to drive a wedge between her and the rest of us.

Victor: Well, I’m glad we’re all on the same page now.

Adam: Yeah, once I heard what nate had to say, it was a no-brainer. He’s an honest man. I believe him.

Nikki: The evidence speaks for itself. So, what do we do now?

Nick: We need to come to some consensus about how to handle things with victoria.

Adam: I assume the two of you have something in mind?

Nick: Victoria seems to be very resistant to the idea that ashland is lying to her. We really only have one move left, and it’s gonna take all of us to pull it off.

Nate: My, um, so-called friendship with ashland has gone up in flames. And we’ve both heard stories about how he deals with people who cross him.

Elena: What do you think he’s gonna do to you?

Elena: Look, you crossed the line, but ashland has bigger fish to fry after what he’s done. Besides, if he tries to come for you, he’s gonna have to expose his own deception, and he does not want the truth coming out.

Elena: They would probably give you the key to the city for exposing him.

[ Scoffs ] Please stop worrying and stressing about what ashland is going to do next.

Nate: You’re worked up.

[ Chuckles ]

Elena: Yeah. I am. What ashland did was reprehensible. He used you. He got you mixed up in his twisted scheme and made you believe that he appreciated your medical advice when he was really just pretending to be struggling with a deadly disease.

Nate: I thought I was a better judge of character.

Elena: Please don’t blame yourself. Even I feel like I have to question everything he’s ever said to me, every interaction we’ve ever had, because it’s all just been a part of this scheme to take over newman enterprises. That man is shameless. And someone should make him pay.

Nate: Someone like you?

Elena: Let’s just say if i hadn’t taken an oath to do no harm, he would be right at the top of my to-do list.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] Thank you for being outraged on my behalf. And you’re probably right. Ashland won’t waste his time worrying about me when he has bigger fish to fry. The proof is already out there that he lied about his condition, and I confirmed it.

Elena: Yeah. And he didn’t see that coming. He thought he could walk all over you.

Nate: And he did. He had me completely duped, and I’m so mad at myself for falling for it. Knowing what I know now, I can’t believe I was his best man.

Elena: Look, he fooled us all. He even fooled his wife. And she’s spent, like, every hour of the day with him, at the office and then at home. He did his research, and he figured out how to play us all.

Nate: Yeah, that’s true. But it’s still so hard to process. How did I allow a man like that to have so much influence over me? He’s the one who got me thinking about changing my entire career path. And what if I had taken that leap? I’d be working for a man who had absolutely no qualms about lying about his disease, who would have continued manipulating me if the truth hadn’t come out. Now my plans are up in the air. If I’m not gonna work for ashland, what am I gonna do?

Lily: Hey. Just the man I wanted to see.

[ Chuckles ] Hey.

Victoria: You’re planning to “combat” my father? That sounds extreme.

Ashland: Nothing as aggressive as you might imagine.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] What precisely did you have in mind?

Ashland: I think we need to get away for a while. It’s become practically impossible to focus on anything of substance here. Uh, what if we were to escape to the palazzo in tuscany?

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Well, that sounds really nice.

Ashland: Yeah. We could — we could stop in milan. We could, uh, take a couple of weeks to hang with harrison and then spend a few weeks working, of course, but also enjoying the peace and serenity of our italian getaway.

Victoria: Now?

Ashland: Yeah. Now. I think now is the perfect time. It would give me a chance to investigate these slanderous accusations against me. I could — I could be working in a relatively distraction-free zone. Whether it’s your father or whoever it is that’s feeding him this false information, we need to — we need to put a stop to this thing before it gets out of control.

Victoria: I just don’t want people to think that we’re in hiding or — or that we’re running away from these allegations.

Ashland: I don’t need to run away from anything. But I am beginning to wonder… if your father has planted more doubt in your mind than you’re willing to admit.

Nick: So, that’s the plan. We have to move fast.

Adam: Okay. I like it. I do. Don’t get me wrong, but —

Nick: Oh, here we go.

Adam: It’s never gonna work, nick.

Nikki: I’m more worried about how victoria will react. And whether this is successful or not, she may never forgive us.

Victor: We shouldn’t concern ourselves about that right now. Our priority must be to remove ashland locke out of victoria’s life.

Nick: We have to get her alone and make her look at all the evidence while she still has a chance of listening to logic.

Adam: Look, it seems to me that victoria is gonna take ashland’s word over anybody else’S. Besides, he’s already signed the contract making him partner at newman/locke. So, is this too little too late?

Nick: This isn’t about the company. I don’t give a damn what happens to newman/locke. I only care about my sister. Her future and well-being are at risk, and that should be your focus, too.

Adam: Well, of course, but…

Nick: If this was ashland’s plan all along, to merge his company with newman enterprises and then run it single-handedly, victoria could be incidental now, an obstacle that he has to get rid of by any means necessary. I’m steve, I lost 138 pounds in nine months on golo

Elena: Of course.

Nate: Please.

Lily: Thank you.

Devon: Couldn’t help but overhear you.

Nate: Uh, I believe the legal term is “eavesdropping.”

Lily: [ Laughs ] Yeah, we were eavesdropping. We heard you say that you’re uncertain about your plans for the future?

Nate: Ah, the world is my oyster.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: Oh, yeah? Lily offered you a job at chancellor, and I told you i wouldn’t mind you working at hamilton-winters.

Lily: Yeah, and you turned us both down to work with locke. So, what happened?

Nate: Some things in life don’t work out the way you expect them to. I realized that, um, working for him isn’t the best fit for me.

Lily: Really? In what way?

Nate: Uh… [ Sighs ]

Elena: You know how it goes. You get an offer. It sounds good at first and then you do some digging and you realize that you have a different perspective, and what you want and what they want just doesn’t match up, right?

Nate: That about sums it up.

Lily: Okay. Anything to do with the concerns I raised when you first told me about the job offer?

Elena: Sorry, but what concerns are you talking about?

Lily: Well, I was just talking about, you know, the family politics, the tricky dynamics, the constantly shifting alliances.

Nate: Yeah, that did play a part in it, yes.

Devon: I guess it’s better to politely decline now so you don’t get caught up in anything you’d rather avoid, protect that friendship.

Lily: So, are you gonna stay on at memorial?

Nate: Uh, I’m still leaning towards stepping down as chief of surgery. I just need to figure out my next move.

Lily: Well, in that case, i think devon and I have the perfect solution for you.

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Nikki: My god, you don’t actually think that ashland would harm victoria, do you? I mean, I can see him being cutthroat in trying to be the sole ceo, but to actually get rid of his wife?

Nick: Mom, I don’t want to believe that he’s capable of something like that, but we can’t take anything for granted. We do not know how far he’s willing to go.

Adam: But will you think about it? The guy left his best friend to die, and he stole his identity to get ahead. Now, I don’t know about you, but I doubt the part of his story that says there was nothing he could do to save the real ashland locke’s life.

Victor: Listen to me, all of you. No matter what that sob is trying to do, he is not going to harm one hair on victoria’s head. I’m gonna make sure of that.

Nikki: She’s really gonna need us when all of this is over.

Victor: And we will be there. All of us.

Nick: Are you in, adam?

Adam: [ Sighs ] 100%.

Nick: How about you, mom? You up for this? It all starts with you.

Nikki: I’m ready. Anything for my daughter.

Ashland: I know how close the newmans are and how hard it is for you go to against your father.

Victoria: My dad doesn’t make decisions for me. You know that.

Ashland: Yes, but I get the sense that you have doubts about me now. I mean, my god, victoria, the very idea that you would think for a moment that I would deceive you in the way that your father is claiming.

Victoria: You swore to me that none of that was true. So I’m sure you know how I would react if I learned that — that you lied to me again.

Ashland: Our marriage would never survive.

Victoria: You’d have to be both foolish and desperate to think that you could keep me in the dark about something like that and that we would be able to move past it.

Ashland: I take great pride in being neither of those things.

Victoria: You’re brilliant. And you know me very well. You know that I have a great capacity for forgiveness.

[ Sighs ] But there are some lines that cannot be crossed.

Ashland: I get the sense that you think that I’m about to break down and make some kind of confession here?

Victoria: If there is a confession that needs to be made, then now would be the time to make it. Most bladder leak pads were similar.

Lily: No? We’re on the same page?

Devon: Yes, no, this is top-secret stuff, guys.

Lily: Yes, very high-level.

Nate: Alright.

Lily: Yeah? Okay. Well, devon and I have decided to join forces.

Devon: Mm-hmm. We’re merging.

Lily: Mm-hmm. Chancellor industries and hamilton-winters as one big happy family.

Elena: What?!

Devon: Yeah.

Nate: That’s great news.

Devon: We just made the decision last night.

Nate: I couldn’t be happier for you.

Elena: Oh, my goodness. Two major corporations turning into one entity?

Lily: Yeah.

Elena: That’s huge.

Lily: I mean, look, we have more details to work out, right?

Devon: Yeah, no, there’s a whole bunch of work before it’s final, but we’re — we’re cautiously optimistic.

Lily: Yeah. Well, that’s devon being devon, crossing all the t’s and being as low-key as possible.

Devon: Well, yeah, sure, sure. I wouldn’t have agreed to it, though, unless I thought we could create something very special.

Lily: Yeah, absolutely. And he’s not just talking about profits. I mean, we want to build something here that we can run together as a family.

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Lily: And we want you to be a part of that, nate, with us.

Ashland: You’re right. There is something I need to confess. It’s a pretty big thing. Earth-shattering.

Victoria: It’s alright. I’m ready to listen.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] Okay. Here it is. I love you. I love you more than I have loved anything in my entire life. You are a gift that I do not deserve. And I want to spend the rest of my life making you happy. That’s it. That’s the confession. Victoria, I can see in your eyes you’re torn between your love for me and your fidelity to your family, that you hate the fact that we are forced to have this conversation.

Victoria: You’re right.

[ Sighs ] I’m so sorry.

Ashland: No. Don’t say that. You have nothing to be sorry for. Your family is breathing down your neck right now. They’re — they’re pushing this idea of some kind of insane conspiracy theory on you. Maybe they think if they say it enough times, you’ll start to believe it. I don’t know. But I’m asking you to shut out that noise. And I think the best way for you to do that is to agree to go away with me.

Victoria: You know changing our locations — it’s not gonna make our problems disappear.

Ashland: I disagree. Dealing with your family’s constant inference is neither a good way for us to function as a couple or to run a company. We need time to focus. I can’t think of a more fitting place than tuscany, where i first pledged my love and my life to you and where you said to me, “love transcends all.”

Victoria: I remember very well.

Ashland: Then let’s do it. Let’s go.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Today?

Ashland: Yeah.

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

Ashland: Sure. We’ll just pack a few bags. We’ll get on the jet. We’ll be there before you know it. Say yes.

Nikki: You’re the only one i could turn to. You’re the — you’re the only one who would understand.

Nikki: It’s a private matter. Could we go someplace where we can be alone, please?

Adam: [ Breathes deeply ] So, what happens if it, uh, doesn’t work out? Do we have a, uh, plan b?

Nick: Can we just let plan a get, like, halfway through?

Adam: Look, I’m just saying that we need to be realistic that we might need a fallback plan.

Nick: Well, it sounds like you have something in mind, adam.

Adam: I floated an idea yesterday, but dad shot it down. So, what happens if victoria come around? Does the board have the power to nullify ashland’s contract? And victoria’s?

Victor: Son, that’s difficult because of the merger.

Adam: Yeah, but it’s not impossible.

Victor: Under no circumstances will you remove victoria from her position.

Nick: There’s no basis for firing her.

Nikki: Victoria, if you think I share everything with your father, you are sorely mistaken. Right now I need some privacy with my daughter. Please.

Ashland: Well, I’m sorry to disappoint you, nikki, but if victoria wants me to stay, I’m gonna stay.

Nikki: Alright. If that’s the way you want to play it. I’m done being polite. I am no longer asking you. I am telling you to leave this office.

Adam: Victoria has made a colossal error. I think we can all agree on that. That doesn’t mean that I’m trying to throw her off the throne so that I can wear the crown, nicholas.

Nick: All historical evidence to the contrary.

Adam: [ Scoffs ] I have a vested interest in this company and the health and future of newman/locke because i actually work for the company, unlike you. And we can’t hit pause on work because there’s a family crisis. Somebody needs to be here to keep their eye on the ball.

Victor: Boys, I want you to stop it now. We’ll take this one step at a time. If any damage has been done to our business, we will deal with it. Your sister’s protection and security is our priority. Is that clear?

[ Door opens ] Lauren.

Adam: We, um — we’re in the middle of a private meeting.

Lauren: Well, just consider me the next problem on your agenda then. Victor, you have got to come clean with me. What exactly do you know about my husband? – When I was flying, I used to love sitting on the ramP.

Lauren: Have you heard from michael since we last spoke?

Victor: I received a package from him yesterday.

Lauren: Which could have been sent days ago when he was safe. So let me rephrase. Have you heard anything about michael? Because I’m aware that you have people searching for him.

Victor: How do you know that?

Lauren: It doesn’t matter. The point is, you should have shared that with me. Now I am asking you to tell me everything.

Victor: [ Breathes deeply ] I have lost contact with michael.

Lauren: [ Sighs heavily ] I knew that in my heart. Okay, well, it’s good that i went to kevin.

Victor: What does kevin have to do with this?

Lauren: When you refused to give me any information, I went to him for help. I have filed a missing-persons report with the gcpd, and they’ve contacted the peruvian authorities.

Victor: Lauren, forget about the gcpd, alright? I have my best people looking for him right now, as we speak. We’ll find him. Trust me.

Lauren: Trust you? Like michael did? And maybe I would have if you had given me any kind of information when this fact-finding mission went off the rails.

Victor: I didn’t want to alarm you. And I thought we would find michael much more quickly.

Lauren: But you didn’T. And you still said nothing. I don’t even know why he was sent to south america. And I suppose you two know more than I do. You’ve been conspicuously silent. I’d really love your take. Are you privy to any information that you think I should have?

[ Sighs ]

Nikki: Oh, my god, why can’t you do this one simple thing for me?

Ashland: This is a matter of respect. You’re showing none to victoria or to me. And it’s not hard to imagine why you want me to leave.

Nikki: Can you really be this obtuse? Not everything is about you, ashland. I’m not here because of you. It’s a private family matter. It’s about victor and me and our marriage.

Victoria: What happened? Mom?

Nikki: Oh, we had a terrible fight. The things that we said to each other, the threats… now I’m worried. I-I-I don’t know what to do because we both said things that we can’t take back.

Victoria: Oh, I’m so sorry.

Nikki: Oh, no, I’m sorry to burden you with this. You’re dealing with so many other things. But I didn’t have anywhere else to turn.

Victoria: No, no, it’s okay. I’m glad you came to me. It’s alright. We’ll figure it out. I promise. I need to speak with my mother alone.

Ashland: You sure about that?

Victoria: Look at her. I mean, she’s obviously upset. And I don’t want to stress her out any more than she already is. She’s been battling enough. I don’t want to add to it.

Ashland: Perhaps you’re right.

Victoria: It’s just gonna take a few minutes. My mother is the strongest woman that I know, and I want to be there for her. Do you understand?

Ashland: Yes. This is one of the things i love about you. Even with someone who’s caused you so much consternation, your first instinct is to help.

Victoria: I want to support her.

Ashland: I understand.

Victoria: Okay.

Ashland: Nikki… I truly wish you the best. You’re very fortunate to have such a loving and caring daughter.

Nikki: Thank you.

Ashland: I’ll be back as soon as I can, and we’ll pick up where we left off, yeah?

Victoria: Yeah.

Ashland: Okay.

[ Door opens ]

Nick: Look, lauren, I know how concerned you are about michael.

Lauren: You have no idea.

Nick: I know my dad’s gonna find him soon.

Adam: Look, michael will come back with a hell of a story, I’m sure. He knows how to handle himself.

Lauren: Why won’t any of you just tell me what’s going on?

Victor: Because I want to keep what michael is working on confidential. It has to do with attorney/client privilege.

Lauren: And you are the client. You could tell me.

Victor: No, I cannot tell you. And I’m sorry that what should have been a routine trip turned into a dangerous situation for michael, but I will remedy the situation. I promise you.

Lauren: If only I could believe you.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Nick: Yeah, adam and I need to take care of that issue we were discussing earlier.

Victor: I will join you shortly, son.

Lauren: Does that have something to do with michael?

Victor: [ Breathes deeply ] It does in a way, lauren, yes. Okay? But I honestly cannot tell you what we’re working on right now. He’s on a very, very important mission. But I promise you that I’ll do everything in my power to bring him back safely. You have my word. Be ready for whatever life throws your way.

Nate: [ Sighs ] Forgive me for blowing up like that.

Devon: No, man. Forgive us for offering you a cool job.

Lily: Well, no. We — we shouldn’t have bombarded you. I’m sorry.

Nate: No, it’s alright. Don’t apologize. This is good news. I couldn’t be happier.

Lily: Well, I mean, I’ve seen you happier. So, what’s going on? Just tell us.

Nate: It’s complicated.

Lily: Well, I mean, what isn’t? I think the three of us can help solve whatever problem it is.

Nate: Thank you, but, unfortunately, this is just the aftermath of making a bad judgment call.

Devon: Oh, man. Good thing none of us have experience with that.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Is there anything that we can do?

Nate: No. I just need time to regroup.

Devon: Yeah? You want to get out? You want to go for a run or something to clear your head?

Lily: I could bore you with some of the corporate conundrums I’m trying to tackle.

Devon: I got singers I’m thinking of signing. You can help me listen to their demos.

Elena: See? We are all here for you, whatever you need.

Lily: Yeah. You’re stuck with us.

Nate: Stop. I just need to take care of some things.

Lily: Okay, well, the offer doesn’t expire.

Nate: Good to know.

Elena: Talk to you later.

Lily: Uh, what was that? What’s going on?

Devon: Is everything alright with him?

Elena: [ Sighs ] It’s not my place to talk about it.

Devon: Is it something serious?

Elena: What I can say is he’s going to be okay and you don’t need to worry about him.

Lily: I mean, was it the wrong time to bring up the job offer?

Elena: No, no, no, no, no, no. I think once he cools down, he’ll appreciate it. And I love that you want to invite him into the legacy that you’re creating. He’s gonna need something to latch onto.

Nikki: Thank you so much.

Victoria: Mama, are you feeling better?

Nikki: I am, now that we’re alone.

Victoria: So, tell me about this argument that you had with dad. I know you told ashland that it had nothing to do with him, but — I’m sorry — I find that hard to believe, given what’s happened the past few days.

Nikki: Yeah. Everybody has been so tense.

Victoria: Yes, because of the accusations that dad makes towards my husband. I hope you told him that he’s crossed the line and he needs to stop.

Nikki: Victoria, there is no doubt in my mind that your father was right to investigate his suspicions.

Victoria: You didn’t really have a fight with dad, did you? You lied to me.

Nikki: And I’m very sorry about that. I had to get ashland out of the room so we could speak freely.

Victoria: There is nothing that you can say to me that i haven’t already heard!

Nikki: Victoria, listen to me. He has been using you. He has been lying to you since the day he claimed he was sick.

Victoria: How far are you and dad willing to go?

Victor: As far as is necessary to show you exactly what ashland has done.

Nick: And we’re not leaving until you’ve seen all the evidence.

Billy: You know that thing in your life that you want to hold onto so desperately? You do so so tightly that you end up draining it of its joy. You end up squeezing the life out of it. The thing you want the most becomes the most illusive, and your frustration grows because you’re trying to control something that is out of your control. You end up closing off or hitting a wall. I can’t be the only one. But I think I might have just landed on something that helps me. By closing my eyes, by quieting my system, by calming my mind and simply breathing. I sit here open to the possibilities, the opportunity to allow the thing that I want most in my life…to arrive.

Phyllis: Thank you for bringing in my luggage. You’re such a gentleman.

Jack: It is the least I can do after all you did for me in la.

Phyllis: I’d like to do a little more for you.

Jack: Oh?

Phyllis: Yeah, I’d like to do a deeper dive into who’s sending you those texts.

Phyllis: Okay. Well, I understand. The whole trip, it was a lot to process, that you have a new granddaughter.

Jack: Yeah, I wouldn’t have gotten through any of this without your companionship and support. You know that.

Phyllis: Honestly, I wish i would’ve gotten a chance to get to know allie a little better.

Jack: Yeah, same here, but I haven’t given up. It may still happen.

Billy: What I’m talking about is meditation. Now, let me be very clear. I am early in on this journey, and from what I understand, it’s not a cure-all but more a tool to help you calm your mind. And as I sit here with my small sample size, it has helped me get into a mind-set to talk to you all freely, with no barriers, with no hang-ups, without over-thinking it. Because the truth is I’m not sure where this adventure’s going to take me emotionally or otherwise, but I’m not gonna think about that. Billy: Now, I can’t take credit for this new approach. Jack: You know what? That sounds great. Oh, and about the talk, fair warning, I got a lot to tell.

Traci: I assumed as much.

Jack: It’s stuff I want to tell the whole family, but I’d love to run it by you first, if you’re okay with that.

Devon: I imagine that the chance of a lifetime I’m throwing away is merging chancellor and hamilton-winters, right?

Jill: Good guess. Must be why you have the ceo title and the big office.

Devon: Well, you know, those are two things that I really do love, jill.

Jill: Oh, I’m sure you do. But before you say anything else, let me just tell you that when lily first pitched the idea to me, I was floored. But I quickly came to realize, devon, it is inspired. Together, our two companies would be unstoppable. Look what the newman/locke merger has done for those entities.

Devon: Yeah, I can definitely see the possibilities, but you and I both know that there are complications that come with making a power play like that.

Jill: With a company as big as ours would be, we could handle any difficulties.

Devon: No, I know that, jill, and, believe me, I haven’t stopped considering it at all. I just feel like we need to focus on this first joint venture that we have going and see how that goes first before we take the next step.

Jill: Oh, I already know how it’s gonna go — fabulously. It’s you and lily. I see nothing but success for any co-production between the two of you. But let me say that I think delaying the bigger move would be a huge mistake. Think about what katherine or neil would do in this situation.

Devon: Yeah, I’m pretty sure that neil and katherine would both take their time before making such a big decision like this, and they would weigh everything very carefully.

Jill: And then they would both agree this is the right move. I have looked at this from every single angle, and I have to tell, it almost seems like it was written in the stars. Katherine would love that you were involved in running chancellor.

Devon: I know that what you’re saying is true and I also know that neil would love to know that his kids are working together, because we created hamilton-winters to be a family company.

Jill: And on top of all that, you are now a third parent to my great-grandson. How much more family can we get?

Billy: The good, the bad, the ugly, and everything in between — that’s what you’re gonna get from me. And I thought that I would start with a story about a sweet little girl whose death changed my life forever. Now, I should probably warn you, there are parts of this story that are a little bit rough. But it’s the defining moment in my adult life and, for me, the only place to begin. A shocking loss that led me down a path into darkness. A cautionary tale that gets worse before it gets better. Now, I don’t think that I will ever entirely heal, but the truth is I’m not sure if I want to, and the fear is that I would somehow lose the memories. Somehow my sweet daughter would disappear in some sort of way, and…I like having her there in whatever capacity I can get. But her memory has not been serving me in the way that it could. And I’m hoping that I finally figured out that the key to it is to love her, honor her, and celebrate her without letting the pain and grief and anger drive me. Now, the ending of this story isn’t exactly happy because happy would mean that she is still here. But it’s filled with beautiful memories. And the fact that I was able to love her, and that gives me strength, and I’m hoping that this can be an uplifting, empowering story. Because with all the pain, I am still forever grateful and consider myself incredibly lucky that I was able to know her in the way that I did. Even if it was for way too short of a time.

Jack: You know what? Phyllis was really there. She was as strong and as good a friend as I could’ve asked for during this emotional roller coaster.

Traci: Yes.

Jack: I just wish I’d reached out to keemo one last time.

Traci: Oh, no, no, you cannot blame yourself for that. A relationship is a two-way street.

Jack: Yeah, my brain knows that, my heart still just hurts.

Traci: Jack, it’s gonna take time.

Jack: Yeah. Yeah, it’s gonna take time, and my emotions have been all over the place.

Traci: Of course they have, because they’re trying to make sense of something that doesn’T.

Jack: How is it you always know the right thing to say?

Traci: [ Chuckles ] I don’t know about that, but I’m just doing the best I can, same as you. And this situation is so overwhelming.

Jack: You don’t know the half of it.

Traci: [ Sighs ] I’m afraid to ask. What — what? There’s something more?

Jack: Well, when luan died, keemo left genoa city and he got on with his life. He found some happiness. He met someone. He fell in love. He got married. He had a child.

Traci: I’m sorry, what?

Jack: You have a great-niece. I have a granddaughter.

Traci: Oh. [ Chuckles ] Oh, jack!

Amanda: Thank you for calling me. We are so overdue for some girl time. So tell me about all of your adventures with jack.

Phyllis: Adventures?

Amanda: Okay, I didn’t mean that the way that it sounded.

Phyllis: Uh, definitely adventure — I don’t know if it’s the right word. I mean, it just felt really great giving emotional support to jack when he’s usually extending that to me.

Amanda: Well, I’m really glad that you were there for jack when he needed you. And I don’t know what happened, but is there any way that these supportive feelings turned romantic?

Phyllis: It wasn’t like that at all.

Traci: Okay, you’re gonna have to go back and take me through this one step at a time, ’cause I — I mean, how old is she? What’s her name? Did you get to meet her?

Jack: Her name is allie. I met her today, and she is a bright, beautiful young graduate student.

Traci: Okay, so we’re not talking about a little girl.

Jack: Oh, no, no, she’s an adult. Here. Yeah, I missed out on her childhood the same way I missed out on keemo’S.

Traci: Oh, jack, she’s just beautiful.

Jack: Yeah.

Traci: Is she the one that’s been sending you these cryptic texts?

Jack: No. She had no idea who I was. Now, who– whoever sent those texts, if the purpose was to get me closer to my granddaughter, the texter succeeded.

Traci: How is it possible she didn’t know anything about you?

Jack: Because keemo insisted she not know I even existed.

Traci: Oh, jack, I’m sorry.

Jack: Yeah, it’s a lot to take in, but I’ll work my way through that.

Traci: Yes, yes, you will, and I still have a whole bunch of questions. Starting with, when do I get to meet this new member of our family?

Jack: Well, I’d love for that to happen soon, but…not right away. No, I — if it’s going to happen — and believe me, I want it to happen — it’s gonna take some time.

Billy: After I lost my daughter, I felt myself building these walls around my heart, around everything good in my life, and maybe that was self-preservation. Clearly I was trying to protect myself, but the problem was these walls were built with hatred. And they were aimed directly at the person responsible for her death.

[ Sighs ] I realized that really it was me avoiding dealing directly with my sense of loss…and with my own guilt. All of it festering under the surface. At times, lying dormant, but at other times erupting, and when it did, it wasn’t good. I acted out in a way that was scary and sometimes very troubling. At one point, pushing my mind to actually splinter.

[ Sighs ] But I’m lucky. I had the love of a good friend and I had therapy to put myself back togetheR. And after backsliding more times than I care to mention… something amazing happened to me. Something very surprising. Something that saved me. Pure and simple…love.

Devon: Well, thank you for coming by. Hope I didn’t call you too late.

Lily: No, no, I was up. Is everything okay? Dom’s good?

Devon: Yeah, yeah, dom is getting better every day.

Lily: Good.

Devon: Yeah.

Lily: But I’m guessing you called me over here for more than just a catch-up?

Devon: Yeah, yeah, I did. Jill called me tonight.

Lily: Oh.

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Lily: To talk about the merger?

Devon: Mm-hmm, yes.

Lily: Okay, I did not put her up to that, I promise you.

Devon: I know you didn’T. Nobody puts jill up to anything.

Lily: That’s very true. So…what happened?

Devon: She wouldn’t take no for an answer is what happened.

Lily: Does that mean that she convinced you?

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Traci: How is it that allie doesn’t want to see you again after just having met you?

Jack: Actually, allie proposed that we get together sometime in the future, you know, for coffee next time I’m in la. It’s cute. I made the same offer. I don’t expect much to come of it.

Traci: Why not?

Jack: Well, I think her first instinct is to run for the hills and forget we ever met. Now, I don’t blame her. I really don’t, on some level. She has her own life. She’s mourning her father’s death. And I show up in the middle of her grieving and it’s like a bomb. She was as shocked by my existence as I was by hers. I don’t blame her if she decides she wants to back up and walk away.

Traci: Well, I take all of your points. It’s just I find the whole situation so heartbreaking.

Jack: Yeah, it didn’t exactly go like I planned. But I’m not giving up. I am convinced I can forge some kind of relationship with my granddaughter, some kind of bond. She just needs time to get used to the idea — it’s more than time. I — I have to find some way to let her know artfully, carefully, subtly, that the abbotts’ door is always open to her.

Allie: I wish you could give me a sign or something, dad. God, I am just…so confused. In the past, when I needed to talk to someone, you were the one who I turned to. When things got rough, I leaned on you. And now… I have no one.

[ Sighs ] Or at least nobody like you. Mom is a million miles away, busy with her own life. And we both know that’s never gonna change. You’re gone and, uh…you’re never really coming back, are you? And now…jack abbott shows up. How do I know if I can trust him? I mean, the last thing I would want to do is disgrace your memory by doing something that you wouldn’t approve of. If you cut him out of your life, then shouldn’t I do the same? My a1c stayed here,

Phyllis: What happened with jack in california was so heavy. I mean, all the emotions that he dealt with, the loss of his son, then all the other stuff that came up, it just…

Amanda: I’m sorry. I am — I’m so sorry that i tried to make light of the situation by, you know, asking if it went romantic.

Phyllis: No, you’re okay. I mean, it just wasn’t that kind of trip.

Amanda: Okay, I got it.

Phyllis: Yeah, and, you know, jack and I are not in the romantic mind-set.

Amanda: Mm. Great.

Phyllis: I thought we made that clear. I mean, I thought we were okay on that.

Amanda: Yeah, I put that topic to bed.

Phyllis: Oh, good, good, because it’s a non-starter.

Amanda: Okay, well, you’re the one that still keeps talking about it.

Phyllis: I’m not talking about it, just…

Amanda: I just want to say that I know that jack appreciated you being there for him. You are that rare person that would drop everything and fly across the country when somebody needs you.

Phyllis: That’s sweet. I am.

[ Chuckles ] And it wasn’t a sacrifice, by the way. I was happy to be there for jack.

Amanda: See, I think that you and jack, your relationship has just — it’s reached a new level, even if it’s not romantic.

Phyllis: You know what? It has. You’re right, it has reached a new level.

Jack: Well, I have been going on and on. What do you think?

Traci: [ Sighs ] Well, I don’t want to dampen your hopes.

Jack: But?

Traci: I also don’t want to see you set yourself up to be disappointed.

Jack: I’m calling it guarded optimism.

Traci: [ Chuckles ] I consider myself an optimist, too.

Jack: I know. I know where you’re going next. I’m telling you, you don’t have to worry about me. I am moving forward with my eyes wide open, well aware this may not work out. But I’m thinking maybe the door won’t always be closed. I see in allie this bright, resourceful young woman, but i also am aware she needs family. She’s lost family. Her whole family’s been upended.

Traci: What about her other relatives? I mean, where’s her mother?

Jack: Well, she said that keemo and her mother divorced some time ago and that she and her mother have kind of a rocky relationship. When I look in her eyes, I just see someone who’s alone, afraid, and sad.

Traci: She’s not the only one who’s sad, jack.

Jack: Yeah, it’s been a rough time all around.

Traci: But you have handled this with generosity and grace, and I admire your determination. I know I had reservations, but i am so grateful that you went all the way to los angeles looking for answers. And you found allie. And I’m equally glad that you’re home, where your family can take care of you.

Jack: Thanks. Needed this.

Traci: [ Laughs ] And speaking of family, everyone else is gonna want to know every detail.

Jack: You know what, you know what, I do want to tell everyone, but look at the hour. Not everyone’s on la time. You know what? I’m gonna go for a drive and try to wind down.

Traci: [ Chuckles ] Jack, you are going to work your way through this, and you’re not gonna have to do it alone. I love you so much.

Jack: I love you. I cannot believe my son is gone.

Jack: But I am determined not to let that happen to my granddaughter.

Devon: Yeah, no, jill just made about as good of an argument as you did about why we should merge the companies.

Lily: Okay, but are you buying it?

Devon: Um…the more I think about it, the more I love the idea of paying homage to family. I will say that.

Lily: So does that mean you’re closer to a yes than before?

Devon: I would have to see a very detailed proposal on how it would all work out.

Lily: Well, funny enough, i actually already have one made, ready for you to view.

Devon: Really?

Lily: I do.

Devon: I bet you do.

Lily: [ Laughs ]

Devon: I bet you do.

[ Chuckles ] You never doubted yourself on pulling this off, have you?

Lily: No, that’s not true. I just… I was really hoping that the idea of bringing family together would eventually sway you.

Devon: [ Chuckles ] That’s another thing, too, ’cause, like, the benefits of a merger are obvious to me, of course. But I would want to make sure that that never caused any trouble between you and me. Just ’cause I know, we’ve seen family, you know, turn on each other because of business, and i don’t want that to ever happen.

Lily: I understand that. But I really don’t think that’s gonna happen to us. I mean, first of all, I trust you more than anyone else in the world. And secondly, like, we’ve been through so much together, right? Like, teenage years, everything. I mean, in my mind, there’s no amount of corporate friction that could ever sever our bond.

Devon: No. Are you sure about that?

Lily: Yes, I am. And honestly, I would step away from all of it if our relationship were ever put on the line.

Devon: You’d step down as ceo?

Lily: Absolutely, yes.

Devon: Well, I mean, I guess then I would have to make that same promise to you. And if anything ever goes bad, I’ll step down, too.

Lily: So are we on the same page?

Devon: I think we are.

Lily: Okay, I want to hear you say it.

Devon: Okay.

Lily: Say the words.

Devon: I’m ready. I’m ready to take this shot. Let’s do it. Let’s make dad and katherine proud.

Lily: Oh! I’m so happy.

[ Both laugh ]

Devon: Me too. A jelly bean that’s good for you?

Billy: Hey.

Lily: Hi.

Billy: How was your evening?

Lily: Well, I’m very glad you asked. It was amazing. How was yours?

Billy: It was good, but i want to hear about yours first.

Lily: Well, I had a breakthrough with devon and the merger. So a lot of work and negotiations have to be done, but I think it might actually happen.

Billy: Oh, my gosh, that’s amazing. Congratulations. How did you convince him?

Lily: Well, I mean, your mother, of course, helped, but i think the clincher was that i told him no business would ever come between us. And I meant it, you know? We’ve been through so much together. I really do believe that our relationship is unbreakable.

Billy: I don’t doubt it.

Lily: So what’s your news? Tell me.

Billy: Well, I had a bit of a breakthrough myself. You know that traci suggested i try meditation, so I have for the last few days, and I have to say, it has really helped calm my mind and helped me feel open emotionally. I just finished my first podcast, and I have to say, it felt good. I put it out there for the world to hear.

Lily: That’s amazing.

Billy: Yeah.

Lily: Are you happy with it?

Billy: I am. Yeah, I mean, I don’t know if anyone’s gonna listen to it, but that’s not up to me. But it felt cathartic.

Lily: Wow. See? I knew you could do it. I knew you’d find a way to get your inspiration out. I can’t wait to hear it.

Billy: Well, I should warn you, little bit of a spoiler alert, you do factor into it, kind of a reoccurring theme.

Lily: Oh, god.

Billy: No, it’s not bad. It’s — it’s all good because the truth is, I’ll never get tired of telling you that you saved my life.

Amanda: Hey.

Devon: Hey.

Amanda: I’m home.

Devon: Hi.

[ Chuckles ] How you doing?

Amanda: I’m good. Mm. [ Chuckles ] Well, that is a really nice welcome home.

[ Both laugh ]

Devon: There’s more where that came from.

Amanda: Yeah?

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Amanda: Whoa, okay, okay. Okay, romeo.

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Amanda: Am I just that irresistible today or is something else going on?

Devon: Well, you’re irresistible every day, but, yeah, I do have some big news. Uh, lily and I have decided to move forward with merging our companies.

Amanda: Are you kidding?

Devon: No.

Amanda: Wow, that’s — that’s fantastic.

Devon: Yeah, I thought so.

Amanda: Yeah. I’m happy for you, really.

Devon: Is that your happy face?

[ Chuckles ]

Amanda: I’m just — I’m hoping that lily didn’t push you into this.

Devon: No, I promise you she didn’t at all. I considered her options and i got input from other people, but, no, the decision was mine.

Amanda: And you thought this through?

Devon: Yes, I did.

Amanda: Okay, well, then I’m ecstatic.

Devon: Yeah?

Amanda: I’m so excited.

[ Both laugh ]

Devon: Well, thank you. There’s still a lot of — a lot of stuff to nail down, but…

Amanda: Yes, and as the head of chancellor’s legal department, I am well aware this deal is gonna be complicated, but potentially groundbreaking. And there’s the added bonus of the two of us working together.

Devon: Oh, that’s right. That is right.

Amanda: Oh, I will be tough but fair.

Devon: You’re always fair.

Amanda: [ Laughs ]

Devon: Mm. I haven’t been this happy in a very, very long time, you know that?

Amanda: Yeah?

Devon: Yeah. Between you and dominic getting healthy and this merger and everything, just feels like life is coming together really, really well. And you know, when we pull this off, it’s not just gonna change our lives and lily’s life, our two families’ legacies will never be the same again.

[ Both chuckle ]

Phyllis: Hey. Oh, what are you doing here? Is something wrong?

Jack: No, no, no, I just couldn’t sleep.

Phyllis: Neither can I.

Jack: I also wanted to take one more chance to say thank you for being there for me the last couple of days.

Phyllis: I was happy to do it. You don’t need to keep on thanking me.

Jack: I am not gonna let you be dismissive of the kindness and friendship and loyalty you’ve shown. It means the world to me.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Phyllis: Is that the texter? Hey, what does it say? Don’t keep me in suspense. What can I du with less asthma?

Billy: I’m not sure I’m in a position to be giving advice to anyone. I’ve gone about a lot of things in my life the wrong way. But I’m hoping maybe my mistakes can serve as a warning to people who are at risk of falling down the rabbit hole like I did. Everyone’s experience is different, and what may help one person may not work for another. But, like I said, my saving grace was — as the old cliché goes — pure and simple…love. Love can often come as a it can also make you look at the future with fresh eyes. I’m a big believer in second chances. And third and fourth and fifth chances — coming to you when you least expect it.

Allie: Mm.

[ Gasps ] Is someone there?

Victoria: I don’t know what to believe anymore, nicholas. It can’t be true, can it?

Nick: Sounds like you’re having doubts about ashland after all.

Victoria: I’m not saying that.

Nick: But it seems like something may have shifted.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] This is just all so crazy.

Nick: Vick, you were so certain before. And I know you’re a very analytical person. You wouldn’t do something without having good reason. So did some new information come to light, something that made you change your mind?

Nate: You’ve left me no choice. I have to inform victor and victoria of what I’ve learned.

Ashland: But you don’t have anything on me.

Nate: Those scans that show you’ve had no signs of cancer are pretty damning.

Ashland: You’re not a radiologist. You’re not an oncologist. Maybe you’re wrong.

Nate: There’s no record of you ever even having one chemotherapy appointment.

Ashland: So your proof is a lack of information.

Nate: Look, I don’t take any pleasure in doing this, but the newmans deserve to know the truth.

Ashland: I would suggest you think long and hard before you do anything rash.

Nate: Are you threatening me?

Victor: I can’t believe that you blame victoria for this entire mess.

Adam: She let this shark in. And she continues to defend him, even in the face of the overwhelming evidence of his deception. So god knows what he’s gonna do next if we don’t stop him.

Victor: Son, we all have been manipulated one way or the other and deceived by that bastard. Okay? And we’ve all been fooled by love, haven’t we? Do I need to remind you that you were involved with a woman who accused you of attempted murder?

Adam: Okay, the difference is I walked away from chelsea when I found out what she did. And she was never a threat to the family business.

Victor: We all had compassion with what you went through, including victoria. Kindly extend the same courtesy to her, alright?

Adam: Victoria deserves much better than ashland, and I’m very sorry that she can’t see that, but since she can’t, we may all suffer from her blind loyalty, and I don’t think there’s a problem in being honest about that.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Victor: Son, we all have things we can accuse each other of. Stop pointing fingers at victoria.

Chelsea: I made some great connections in new york. I was able to source some very unique fabrics and also find some very promising manufacturing options, so we might even be able to get our line out earlier than anticipated. Isn’t that great?

Chloe: And I — I know it’s a little ambitious, but if you’re willing to put your marketing resources behind it, then we are excited to make the push. So what do you think?

Lauren: [ Sighs ] I’m sorry. I didn’t hear a word you saiD.

Chloe: Oh, um…any news about michael?

Lauren: [ Sighs ] Not a word. I don’t know if I can take it much longer. I promised kevin that I wouldn’t file a missing persons report until tomorrow, but I don’t know if I can wait. I know something’s wrong. Something is definitely wrong. Homegrown tomatoes…nice.

Victoria: I have made the mistake of confiding in you before, and you betrayed me.

Nick: Let’s not point fingers, okay? I’m just here to listen.

Ashland: You misunderstood me. I’m not trying to threaten you in any way whatsoever. I’m just asking you to think through the ramifications before you make some kind of an accusation. For instance, do you really want to risk your friendship with victoria by hurting her this way?

Nate: I won’t be the one hurting her.

Ashland: Nate, it pains me to think that you’re buying into this smear campaign against me.

Nate: This isn’t a smear campaign. It’s something much worse. It’s one thing to dismiss claims from a former disgruntled doctor at that clinic, but after what i found, I’m disgusted by what you’ve done. The levels of manipulation. I can’t believe I ever called you a friend.

Ashland: We are friends.

Nate: It was all a part of your scam. I’m enraged that I was taken in like that.

Ashland: I wasn’t conning you when I asked you to be my best man. I wasn’t working some kind of an angle when I offered you a job.

Nate: So what do you call it, huh? An attempt at buying my silence?

Ashland: I would never hire anyone I didn’t genuinely believe in to work for my company. The business means too much to me. You know that.

Nate: Right, it’s so important to you that you fake having cancer so you can get your hand on the newman side of it.

Ashland: No, that’s what somebody’s trying to make it look like. I keep telling you that. If anyone’s being scammed here, it’s me.

Nate: I can’t believe you still have the gall to try to convince me that you’re the one being set up. It’s not gonna work.

Ashland: Victoria loves me. She believes in me. She’s not going to accept this lie, even if it does come from, well, first victor and now you.

Nate: You can’t just talk your way out of this one with the newmans. You were never sick. And victor’s not the one to be manipulated.

Ashland: We’re done here. I can prove my innocence. And when I do, you’re gonna wish you never doubted me.

Nate: Ashland.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

Nate: It’s time for you to come clean. If you don’t tell them, I will.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Hi, sharon. Can I get a big cup of your strongest coffee, please?

Sharon: Uh, sure. So…how’s your new job going? Must be, um, very different for you being coo. It’s a lot of responsibility.

Sally: You’re right, yes. It should be a lot of responsibility, which is why i should be included in more closed-door meetings.

Sharon: Newman family closed-door meetings — what a surprise.

Sally: Hey, can I…buy you a coffee? I just would love to get your thoughts on working with my new boss since you know him quite well.

Sharon: I have to admit that I’m curious, so I suppose i could have a coffee with you. What kind of thoughts were you looking for?

Sally: I just want to be the best, most supportive coo that adam could have hoped for, and, I don’t know, I was thinking you could give me some insight on how his mind works.

Sharon: You need help navigating the newman dynamics.

Sally: And I get the sense that you know adam better than most, and you certainly have a history with the newmans.

Sharon: Okay, look, here’s the deal. I will, um — I’ll have coffee with you on these conditions. Don’t expect me to praise or badmouth adam. And I’m certainly not going to reveal anything about my personal past relationship with him. Understood? Your heart is at the heart of everything you do.

Sally: I’m not trying to dig into adam’s past or anything like that. I’m honestly just trying to find more ways to support him. You know, insight.

Sharon: Is that all?

Sally: The truth is I really like the guy, and I think he’s pretty special, and too few people seem to see that, but i know that you are someone who does. So you can tell me to back off if you want, but, yeah, I want to know what you think and i hope you know I mean well.

Sharon: Well, you’re right about one thing. I am one of the few people who has seen the good side of adam. I’ve defended him. Sometimes to my detriment. Supporting him has not always been a popular thing to do.

Sally: [ Scoffs ] Well, I don’t really care about that. In case you haven’t noticed, I’m not terribly popular around here myself.

Sharon: Perhaps that’s part of your attraction to him.

Sally: I’m just talking about our working relationship.

Sharon: So there are both personal and professional aspects of your relationship with adam.

Sally: [ Chuckles ] It’s not really relevant to this conversation.

Sharon: Yeah, and that makes things more difficult for you.

Sally: Actually, it doesn’T. I just mean that I understand people who are misunderstood, which is why I think I can be an effective business partner for adam.

Sally: Well, he must agree, since, on paper, you’re not exactly the obvious choice for the coo job.

Sally: Well, I’m not really having any difficulties with the workload. But there is one piece of the puzzle that has me stymied. Victor.

Sharon: Victor does hold a lot of sway over all of the newmans. But I doubt that you’re going to crack that code. What exactly is it that you’re concerned about?

Sally: I’m just worried that adam’s gonna keep making decisions based on pleasing his father and not on what’s best for himself.

Adam: Fine. We can debate victoria’s culpability in this mess some other time. The point is, we need a plan “b” to oust ashland since she is determined to stand by her man.

Victor: As I told you, I sent nicholas to try to get through to your sister.

Adam: Mm-hmm. And given how receptive she was last time nick tried to raise red flags about the guy, do you really think she’s gonna listen now? We need a back-up plan to the back-up plan. And I have one.

Victor: Hmm. I’m listening.

Adam: I think that we should leak the story to the press that ashland faked his illness to take over control of newman/locke. And this time, the story will be true because we have the evidence to prove it. And we can just let it play out. Okay? It is a win-win. It’ll solve the problem of victoria blaming any of us for forcing him out of the company or out of her life. And once the story comes out, the negative publicity will simply drive him away.

Victoria: I’m sure that dad told you his theory about how ashland masterminded this massive lie in order to gain control of newman/locke. Has he shown you the evidence that supposedly proves that?

Nick: I saw the video of the doctor from that clinic in peru claiming that ashland was lying about being sick. What do you make of it?

Victoria: Ashland claims that it’s a disgruntled former employee.

Nick: I’m asking what you concluded from it, not about ashland’s explanation.

Victoria: Honestly, I haven’t concluded much. If dad is right, then ashland’s love for me is false and manipulative. And, honestly, that’s a thought that I don’t even want to entertain. Ashland, he claims that he’s being slandered, but he has yet to indicate that he is close to uncovering who’s behind it. He just keeps going back to this outlandish notion that somehow our father is responsible.

Nick: Really?

Victoria: He even went so far as to say that he thought dad was the one setting him up and that this has all been a part of his grand plan to take back control of newman/locke.

Nick: And do you believe that?

Victoria: That seems far too easy. It’s a juvenile counter-punch. Dad thinks that ashland created these lies, and ashland says that it’s our father.

Nick: So where does that leave you?

Victoria: Earlier today, dad showed me physical proof of money being paid to one of the peruvian doctors. It’s able to be traced back through a shell company. One of ashland’s small radio divisions inside of locke communications. You already know about this, don’t you?

Nick: Vick, it doesn’t matter what I know or what I think. The only thing that matter is what you think. What does the evidence say to you?

Elena: He lied about having cancer? Who does that?

Nate: Apparently ashland locke.

Elena: It’s such a senseless, horrible thing to do. Not only did he manipulate everyone around him, but think about the people who are actually suffering from that awful disease. What a slap in the face.

Nate: Yeah, I’m shocked, too.

Elena: Gosh, this is like something you hear on the news, not something involving one of our friends.

Nate: I know. It’s — it’s got me questioning my own judgment.

Elena: I am so glad you told me about this. I can’t believe you’ve been keeping this betrayal to yourself. This is way too much for you to grapple with on your own.

Nate: I didn’t believe it myself at first. That’s why I kept quiet. When victor shared his evidence with me, that’s when I had to look into it further.

Elena: So what did you do?

Nate: [ Sighs ] I accessed ashland’s medical records.

Elena: And?

Nate: I discovered that not only did ashland’s x-rays after his heart attack show no signs of cancer, he never had even one chemotherapy appointment at memorial.

Elena: I can’t wrap my head around any of this. Why would someone pretend to be dying?

Nate: According to victor, it was all an elaborate scheme to win over victoria and to merge their companies. Then take control of newman/locke.

Elena: That is pure evil.

Nate: I just told ashland, “I’m gonna take this to the newmans if you don’t come clean.”

Elena: I can’t imagine that went over well.

Nate: Well, he maintained his innocence in between a few veiled threats that I would be sorry if I followed through.

Elena: Wow, that’s frightening.

[ Scoffs ] How could anyone do something like this? We’re eating and drinking foods and beverages

Nate: I keep going over and over this whole thing. Trying to figure out how this could’ve happened. I wish I could believe ashland was set up. I mean, I called the man a friend. I was his best man. We toasted at his wedding. Hell, I was on the verge of changing careers just to go work for him.

Elena: I get it. It’s hard to accept that he was so warm and generous to us while he was pulling a number like this. I mean, he flew us out to italy for his wedding. And after all those dinners we had with him and victoria, even I found it hard to believe that this powerful businessman was so friendly and down to earth.

Nate: Turns out it was all an act. And who better to be his allies than two doctors? If he could fool us, he could fool anyone.

Elena: Except he put himself at risk because you had access to his files, and I’m sure it was a difficult line for you to cross.

Nate: I felt like I had to do it. There was no other option. I owe it to victoria and the newmans to tell them the truth.

Elena: Well, the evidence was overwhelming and there doesn’t seem to be any doubts. I’m just stunned at the scope of his deception.

Nate: That son of a bitch lied about having cancer.

Victor: Son, negative publicity — what are you talking about? What do you think this would do to her self-esteem?

Adam: She was barely fazed by all the bad press ashland had already received.

Victor: She wasn’t even mentioned in those articles.

Adam: Okay, I think you’re really underestimating how tough she is.

Victor: Do I need to remind you what a hit she took to her self-confidence after all that experience with J.T.? Hmm? Took her a long time to trust her own self-judgment again. That’s the whole damn reason that I’ve tried to keep this away from her. I didn’t want to tell her the truth about what ashland was up to.

Adam: But it’s too late for that, and finding out what the guy has done, it doesn’t even make a difference to her.

[ Scoffs ]

Victor: She’s in denial right now. She will come to accept the trutH.

Adam: Okay. Well, then maybe there’s a way to put out the story where she comes out unscathed.

Victor: That is impossible. Once reporters find out about this, they’re gonna do their own investigation, alright? And never mind the embarrassment to our company, when people find out that ashland locke was able to deceive us all this time.

Adam: Okay, well, if the guy is gone, we could start to actually repair the damage to newman.

Victor: But most important, if victoria found out that her own family was responsible for the leaks, she would never forgive us. We have got to find another way to deal with this.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Well, I guess murder is out of the question, then.

Victor: Funny.

Adam: Yeah, I know.

[ Clears throat ] It was a bad joke.

Victor: [ Sighs ] Let’s hope and pray that your brother nicholas will get through to — to your sister, okay?

Victoria: I hate to admit it, nick, but michael’s latest evidence has given me pause. It’s, um — it’s damning, and it’s extremely hard to just explain it away.

Nick: Agreed. How does that make you feel?

Victoria: I’m scared, nicholas.

Nick: Of what? Of ashland? Has he threatened you?

Victoria: No, no, no, no. He couldn’t be more gentle and loving, but…that’s why I’m just — I’m scared to let myself believe that he would do this to me.

Nick: Look, I know that it’s a frightening place to go… emotionally. Vick, but you could do a lot of damage to yourself just by fighting it, you know? Give you some deep-rooted doubt or a buried sense of mistrust that could eat away at you no matter how hard you try and suppress it.

Victoria: Or maybe I’m protecting myself because…if this is true…

[ Sighs ]

Nick: If it’s true, then what?

Ashland: [ Groans ] You newmans are relentless.

Lauren: Okay, thank you.

[ Sighs ] Kevin’s gonna file a missing persons report and rey is going to reach out to law enforcement in peru.

Chloe: Good. I’m sure that they will get to the bottom of whatever’s going on.

Chelsea: They will find him. Michael will be home before you know it.

Chloe: And I know how nerve-wracking this is, but with kevin and rey putting the full force of their resources on this, they’re gonna figure out what’s going on.

Lauren: I just wish I had listened to my first instinct to talk michael out of working for victor again.

Chelsea: Don’t blame yourself. You never could’ve predicted this would happen.

Lauren: You know what? I did. I knew that michael going back to work for victor was going to be trouble. And what is the first thing that victor does for michael? Sends him out of the country and into what seems to be a lot of danger and…

[ Sighs ] I just — I — I feel so helpless. I feel so helpless just sitting here doing nothing. I feel like I need to get on a plane and go to peru. When tired, achy feet make your whole body want to stop,

Chloe: Okay, going to peru doesn’t sound like the best idea. I — what would you do when you get there? Where would you even start to look?

Lauren: I don’t know. But I just — I can’t bear just sitting here pretending everything’s okay and…talking about work.

Chloe: Okay, let’s just not talk about work. Let’s talk about how resourceful and clever your husband is, because if something is wrong, he will find a way out of it.

Chelsea: That’s right. There’s no one better at getting himself out of challenging predicaments.

Chloe: Think of all the jams that he has gotten our family out of. He is a survivor.

Chelsea: He can argue any side of anything. I mean, I can attest to that.

Lauren: He does have a silver tongue. It’s why he wins most of his cases.

Chloe: Exactly. That’s why kevin is always complaining that he will never win an argument with his brother.

Lauren: [ Chuckles ] It is one of his worst qualities. He will never, ever admit that he is wrong. Do you know, I caught him eating the last piece of chocolate cake, and he instantly went into a counter-argument. I call it the “offensive defense.” And by the time he was done, i was convinced I ate the cake and the chocolate crumbs around his mouth were my imagination.

[ Laughter ] It’s just uncanny how good he is.

Ashland: Nick, I should have known that you’d be the next newman to jump on the “let’s turn victoria against her husband” bandwagon. First there was victor, then adam, nikki, and now you. I can hardly wait to find out who’s next. God knows, it’s a deep bench.

Nick: When it comes to protecting our own, you’re damn right, we are relentless. But I’m not here to fight with you. I’m here ’cause of her. ‘Cause I love her and I will not allow anyone to hurt her. Call me if you need me.

Ashland: Your brother’s glare and demeanor cast doubt on his claim that he’s here to give friendly support to his sister. Victoria? Are you okay?

[ Cellphone rings ]

Nick: Hey, dad.

Victor: Son, I’m here with adam. We are anxious to find out how things went with victoria.

Nick: Well, I thought I was making some headway. The good news is victoria doesn’t seem to believe ashland’s accusations that you set him up in order to regain control of newman/locke. But then ashland walked in and interrupted us just as I think I was getting her to consider the truth. So I’m afraid I may have lost any ground that I gained. You know what, dad? I got to go. I’ll call you soon.

Victor: Alright, son.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Can you believe the audacity of that guy? To accuse you of being behind this.

Victor: He will stop at nothing to gain control of the newman/locke. He even convinced victoria to make him co-ceo of the company.

Adam: Wait, ashland is officially co-ceo? When did that happen? If you have type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure

Victor: Ashland signed the contract making him co-ceo yesterday.

Adam: And when were you planning on telling me that?

Victor: Has it occurred to you that I have a lot of things to deal with right now?

Adam: I thought we all were dealing with this as a family. And as the ceo of newman media, I should’ve been your first call, not nick.

Victor: I need to tell nicholas how important it was that he was trying to talk to his sister, okay?

Adam: I just — I just have to marvel at how calm and cool you’re acting, even in the face of a potential newman crisis.

Victor: This will blow over, son, in the end. We’ll all come out ahead.

Adam: After everything that has transpired, I just find your confidence rather curious. And I need to ask you something that has gnawing in the back of my mind. Are the accusations against ashland legitimate?

Sharon: Solving the daddy issues that any of the newmans have with victor is a fool’s errand. Many have tried. There’s a long list of casualties.

Sally: Well, I’m always up for a challenge. And I feel like if I can understand the dynamics a little bit more, then I can help adam.

Sharon: Well, I guess on some level, I admire your honesty and your commitment to your new boss. As much as I’ve seen of adam lately, seems like he’s in a good place. Maybe you have something to do with that. Or maybe he’s finally made peace with his father.

Sally: Yeah, if only that were true, but from what I can tell, it seems like peace with victor is a moving target. He loves to keep adam guessing about where he stands. Does he trust him? What are his motives and intentions? He seems to be a master at keeping adam guessing.

Sharon: There are two things that adam needs more than anything else — committed love from his father and a feeling of harmony with him.

Sally: Well, I’m just worried that he may never be able to find that harmony because he does not see himself as an equal to victor. He’s still the son trying to impress his old man.

Sharon: That has always been adam’s achilles’ hell, from the day he came to genoa city.

Sally: Well, I am trying to break him of that.

Sharon: Well, good luck.

Sally: Seems like my time is up. Thank you very much for the talk, sharon. It helped. Just gonna grab a cup of coffee to go and head back to the office.

Nick: What was that about?

Nate: I just can’t believe it got to this point. Why didn’t I see something like this coming? In all the time I spent with ashland, I should’ve figured out something was off.

Elena: I don’t think anyone thought for a second anything like this was going on.

Nate: Oh, and I — I realize now that I was actually coaching him. I was helping him accurately portray his symptoms while he was so-called undergoing treatment. Why did I take him at his word?

Elena: None of this is your fault. You were ashland’s friend, not his doctor. You never officially consulted on his case. You only weighed in with your advice. Why in the world would you think to question or double-check his test results or his claims that he had terminal cancer?

Nate: I was too trusting. This billionaire who barely knows me asks me his best man, then offers me a job? And I never notice something was off?

Elena: Look, I’m not gonna let you do this. And I can’t tell you what you should do, but if it were me, no matter how I figured out the information, I would feel compelled to take everything i knew straight to victoria.

Nate: Well, that was my initial plan, to take this to the newmans. But this could — this could crush victoria. And I hate to be the bearer of this news. And I also got to consider if ashland is vicious enough to do something like this, what else could he do?

Lauren: Thank you for distracting me, guys, and for reminding me of michael’s strengths.

Chloe: Your husband is one strong, shrewd man. He’ll find a way out of this. He always has, he always will. I am certain of it.

Sally: Sorry to interrupt. I couldn’t help but overhear enough of your conversation to know that you’re talking about michael. If it makes you feel any better, I happen to know that victor has people actively searching for your husband in peru.

Chelsea: I didn’t realize that becoming coo would put you in the loop on business that doesn’t involve newman media.

Sally: Well, I’m getting to know victor pretty well. And if there’s one thing he’s good at, it’s harnessing all of his resources to solve any problem he puts his mind to.

Lauren: Well, thank you for that information, sally. I’m very grateful that everything’s being done to find my husband, but I don’t exactly find that very reassuring.

Sally: Well, I thought you would want to hear what’s going on.

Lauren: Oh, no, I’m glad you told me. But thanks to you, I now realize that victor wasn’t being truthful with me when he told me that michael was fine and that he wouldn’t let anything happen to him. Now I’m even more worried because victor is now concerned. I never thought that i would have my ability

Lauren: Alright, I better go check in with kevin and tell him what I just learned about victor. If you’ll excuse me.

Sally: Look, I’m sorry if i upset lauren. I was just trying to help. If it was your husband, wouldn’t you want to know?

Chelsea: We had just calmed her down. Leave it to you to stir things up again.

Chloe: Okay, I’m sure that you didn’t mean any harm, sally. And frankly, you’re right, lauren should know that victor is looking for michael, but she is understandably on edge.

Sally: Of course. I mean, the last thing I wanted to do was make things worse. You know…I was really hoping that maybe we could hit the reset button and put the past aside. Chloe, I really miss your friendship. And, chelsea, I am sorry that we got off on the wrong foot, but maybe now that we are not in direct competition with each other on a daily basis, we can find some sort of truce.

Chelsea: I doubt we’ll ever be best friends.

Sally: Okay. Maybe tolerant acquaintances?

Chelsea: I suppose I could let bygones be bygones.

Sharon: Sally wanted some insight into the victor/adam dynamic.

Nick: Oh, well, if you figure that out, let me know, too.

Sharon: So you seem no better off than the last time I saw you. Any updates on the victoria and ashland situation?

Nick: I was just with vick. I feel like she was this close to admitting all of her doubts about ashland in the face of all the mounting evidence against him, but she just couldn’t quite get there.

Sharon: Well, I understand. It’s got to be really hard to accept that the man that you loved would do something so duplicitous and play with your heart like that.

Nick: He’s really got his hooks in her. She can’t seem to break away from him.

Sharon: If the evidence you have is as strong as you say it is, it’ll only be a matter of time. She’ll come to her senses. But you said you weren’t gonna get involved.

Nick: I don’t know. The more I look at it, the more I realize I can’t walk away.

Sharon: I’m glad you’re doing everything you can for your sister.

Nick: If victoria can’t open her eyes to who the man she married really is, the family’s gonna have to come up with a plan to get him out of her life for good.

Victor: What makes you suddenly doubt all of the evidence against ashland locke?

Adam: I just think the news that ashland’s now co-ceo adds new weight to his claim. I mean, could it be true that all of this was part of your master plan to regain control of newman/locke?

[ Knock on door ]

Nate: Gentlemen.

Victor: Nate, come in.

Nate: I hope I’m not interrupting, but I have something I think you should hear.

Nate: I have that smoking gun you were looking for. <

Adam: Hi, it’s me again. I’m, um… I, uh — I’m just calling to see if there have been any updates from michael. Like I said, I’m here if you need me, dad, so call me back when you get this, please.

[ Sighs ] That is the second time I have called my father, and all I can figure is that he is caught up in…something that ashland may have done.

Sally: But part of you is wondering if there’s more to it.

Adam: It has crossed my mind that my father may be icing out yet again.

Nick: So this doctor in peru who helped ashland fake his cancer —

Victor: Michael baldwin has sent me the bank statements, proving that the doctor in peru received a lot of money from a subsidiary of locke communications.

Nick: [ Scoffs ] Man, talk about careless.

Victor: Yeah. Obviously, he had no idea that he would be investigated, especially not by me.

Nick: But he has, and thanks to michael, we’ve got a pretty damning paper trail.

Victor: There’s a problem, though. Michael baldwin is missing.

Nick: What are you talking about, he’s missing?

Victor: I have not heard from him since our last communication, and I have no doubt that ashland locke is behind it.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Wow. Somebody must’ve got to ashland and tipped him off that michael was getting close to the truth.

Victor: And I have people in peru looking for michael baldwin, and I promise you, if something happens to him, if he gets harmed in any way, I’ll hold ashland locke responsible.

Nick: How much of this does victoria know?

Victor: Unfortunately, I had to tell her everything.

Nick: [ Sighs ]

Victor: And turns out that ashland locke…told her that this is all my plot against him.

Nick: Of course he did. He’s worked so hard, he’s spent so much time getting this close to the prize. He’s never gonna walk away. But, dad, if…if victoria refuses to believe what is right in front of her, what can anyone do?

Victor: I’m asking myself the same question, obviously.

Victoria: The peruvian doctor’s bank statements — showing a series of fund transfers from locke communications group into his account. Buying his silence, according to my father. I don’t know how you would explain it.

Ashland: This is the first I’m hearing of it. I can’t explain it.

Victoria: I see.

Ashland: But that’s really the whole point, don’t you think? The reason victor was so eager for you to see that report, part of his plan to damage me in your mind, to paint me as a liar, as some kind of a charlatan who would make up a terminal illness in order to gain an advantage over other people, including — including my own wife.

Victoria: And yet the proof is — is here. That while you were still owner of locke communications group, there was a substantial amount of money being funneled from the small radio division into the pocket of the doctor at the clinic that you underwrite. The same doctor that accused you of fabricating all of this.

Ashland: Kudos to victor.

[ Chuckles ] He wanted to dig up dirt on me, and he found someone who was willing to accommodate him. I cannot wait to get my hands on the person who is trying to set me up. I — [ Sighs ] I’m sorry. [ Chuckles ] I know that losing my temper doesn’t gain me anything.

Victoria: I’m as upset as you are about this. Just think that we need to redirect our energy and find a way to fix it.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Ashland: Trace, hi.

Traci: Hi, jack. Oh, I’m so glad you picked up. Listen, am I calling at a bad time? Did I catch you in the middle of something?

Jack: I know you tried to call me yesterday. I’m sorry I didn’t get back to you, okay?

Traci: Don’t give it another thought. I’m just checking in.

Jack: Good to hear your voice.

Traci: And yours. So how’s it all going? I know that there’s so much for you to deal with.

Jack: You talked to phyllis.

Traci: Yeah, I think she filled me in on everything that’s happened. I know that you went to keemo’s house.

Jack: I’m there right now. A box of keemo’s things, thinking, remembering. Wishing.

Traci: Phyllis said that you found some letters that keemo had written you and never sent.

Jack: Yeah, a whole stack of them. Reading them, I learned that keemo eventually forgave me. Unfortunately, he was never ready to let me back into his life.

Traci: Jack, there’s been so much that was left unsaid between you and your son. My heart is breaking for you.

Phyllis: Okay, I will do that. So I understand why you wouldn’t want to get into it with traci. I mean, it’s a lot to process. It’s, you know, still unfolding.

Jack: True.

Phyllis: How do you want to proceed? What’s your plan?

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Jack: Oh, it’s allie. “Sorry for how I left before. I didn’t mean to be rude, but it’s a lot to take in. I wish you safe travels back to genoa city. All my best, allie nguyen.” Well, I guess my decision’s been made for me. Time to go home.

Phyllis: Wait, what? Are you sure?

Jack: I’m not going to force her into any situation she can’t embrace, at least for now.

Phyllis: There’s something very interesting about that text.

Jack: Like what?

Phyllis: Neither of us told her we were from genoa city.

Jack: Really?

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. So how did she know that?

Jack: I could think of any number of explanations.

Phyllis: I can only think of one.

Victoria: If we can figure out who authorized a transfer of funds from your company to the doctor in peru, then I guess we can figure out who’s behind all of this.

Ashland: Possibly.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] The radio division is low-key. I mean, you must know who has access. Unless this is a hack job, it has to be someone from the inside.

Ashland: There’s no one more inside than victor newman.

Victoria: No. No, do not go there.

Ashland: Victoria —

Victoria: No, I won’t listen to it. After hearing my father’s side of the conversation, I am convinced that he would never hurt me in this way.

Ashland: Oh, come on, are you listening to yourself right now? Your family has been attempting to interfere in our relationship since we met.

Victoria: That was always nicholas. My father has supported us up until now. Why would he suddenly come up with this — this ridiculous scheme, trying to frame you?

Ashland: I don’t know. I can’t pretend to get inside his mind. I just know that this began when you told him that we were thinking about changing my title to co-ceo.

Victoria: He would not go to these lengths because he disagreed with a business decision.

Ashland: But he knew he couldn’t talk you out of it. Is it that big of a jump to imagine that he would go to extreme measures?

Victoria: Please don’t fight me on this. We need to figure out who on the inside would be capable of this sort of thing. What is their motive? Why do they want to make you look like you’re lying about having cancer?

Ashland: I know why. Because they want to hurt me in the worst way possible.

Victoria: They want to damage your credibility.

Ashland: I’m not talking about my business reputation. That is what it is. I’m talking about raising the thought in people’s minds that i could be this cruel and this calculating — raising that thought in your mind. That is the worst thing anyone could do to me. Please tell me it’s not working. I don’t care about other people. I need to know that you believe me.

Nick: It’s why I was against this marriage from the beginning. I saw how easily victoria was manipulated by ashland, and now he’s brainwashed her into thinking that he can do no wrong and that he’s the victim here.

Victor: You’re exactly right, son.

Nick: I mean, I can just see him convincing her that he’s a changed man and that he wants to spend what little time he has left with his beautiful bride, and the only thing keeping them from happiness is her terrible family.

Victor: Now he has convinced your sister that he wants to take a more active role. He wants to be more than just an advisor to the company. He wants to be co-ceo.

Nick: After everything you did to stop her from doing that, she still gave up sole control of this company that she fought for years to lead on her own?

Victor: You know they just signed the paperwork to that effect.

Nick: So now he’s her equal at newman/locke, which was obviously his goal all along.

Victor: Yep, and now he had the audacity to inform your mother and me that he wants to take a more active role now that he has miraculously recovered.

Nick: I mean, are you surprised? Ashland played this pretty well. The only thing you can do is turn victoria against him, and so far, we haven’t been able to do that. So what are you gonna do?

Victor: Not what I’m gonna do, son. It’s what you’re gonna do.

Sally: You worry way too much about what victor thinks and does.

Adam: That is not the first time I have heard that.

Sally: Face it. You’re barely even on his radar. He is all about the princess.

Adam: Mm. Victoria.

Sally: So if you’re feeling left out again…

Adam: She’s the reason.

Sally: Your dad is not thinking about how any of this latest stuff with ashland is gonna affect you or newman media. His focus is elsewhere. And that could be a good thing. Didn’t you just tell me the other day that all of this could somehow work in your favor?

Adam: Mm. I may have said something to that effect.

Sally: So if that’s the case, then why even let what victor’s doing bother you at all?

Adam: It’s possible that ashland may have done something that I may be able to take advantage of. But there’s no guarantees.

Sally: So you’re saying, if things go south between him and his wife, newman/locke could suffer…and that could create an opening.

Adam: Oh, really? Lady macbeth.

Victor: I’m not asking you to do anything illegal, anything questionable. I just would like you to talk to your sister.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Just talk to her?

Victor: Yes, you might get through to her.

Nick: I doubt that.

Victor: Son, your mother and I have tried talking to her, to no avail.

Nick: Dad, the last time i tried to talk her out of anything that had to do with ashland was at the wedding, and she cut me off cold. She’s barely said two civil words to me since. We’re still not in a good place. And now victoria knows that you have all this proof about all of ashland’s lies, she knows that michael may be missing, and she’s still siding with the guy? I just don’t know what it is you think I can accomplish.

Victor: Son, I’m asking you to do it for me, for the family. What have you got to lose?

Phyllis: Well, if keemo never told allie about you in the first place, then she wouldn’t know where you were from. She obviously did a search on you.

Jack: Perhaps.

Phyllis: Not perhaps. It takes five seconds to search someone out on the internet. Come on, give me a break. So it means she’s curious about you and her newfound family.

Jack: I appreciate your efforts to give me hope, but I’m going to leave things be right now.

Phyllis: Why?

Jack: Because I have to consider how this is going to affect allie, regardless of what I want. I would like nothing more than to have a relationship with my son’s child, this granddaughter I never knew I had, but I can’t risk doing to her what I did to keemo — pushing too hard.

Phyllis: Okay. It is wise that you are respectful of her feelings.

Jack: Thank you for acknowledging that.

Phyllis: Sure, sure. I’m sure she’s in shock after what she learned.

Jack: Of course she is. She’s grappling with the fact that her father never wanted her to know that I existed. I’m gonna back off for right now, let her have time and space to figure out how to handle this.

Phyllis: Of course you have a lot to process, both of you.

Jack: You know, it’s time to go home. There’s not — nothing left to do here.

Phyllis: Oh, oh, I completely disagree with that. There’s something you should do.

Jack: Which is?

Phyllis: Jack, you have to find out who prodded you to come here to los angeles, to meet allie in the first place.

Jack: [ Sighs ] Hi, I’m debra.

Jack: Look, I know you love a good mystery. However —

Phyllis: Wait, wait. “However”? I mean, you learned so much here. I mean, don’t you want to find out who insistently texted you and convinced you to come out here and pursue this?

Jack: I’ve had enough of investigations. I have one loose end I need to tie up, and then I want to go home.

Phyllis: Okay. You need some help with this?

Jack: No, I need to give kyle a call. He needs to know this, and i don’t know when I’m gonna see him again.

Phyllis: Okay. Um…I’m just gonna go out on the porch and [Clears throat] Give you some privacy.

Jack: Thank you.

[ Sighs ]

Kyle: Dad, hey, I wasn’t expecting to hear from you. Did I miss a meeting?

Jack: I know it’s late in milan. If you could give me a few minutes, there’s something important I want to discuss with you.

Kyle: Sure. Summer’s putting harrison to bed and won’t be out for a while. What’s going on? Where are you calling from?

Jack: I’m in los angeles. I’m in the house keemo lived in.

Kyle: Wow, keemo. That’s a name I haven’t heard you mention in…forever. You’re out there visiting him?

Jack: Kyle, I have estranged from your older brother for many years now.

Kyle: I didn’t realize that.

Jack: There’s a lot I haven’t told you or anyone else in the family. I’m not gonna get into details now, but I — I learned that keemo recently passed away.

Kyle: Oh, no, dad. I’m so sorry.

Jack: So am I.

Kyle: He was pretty young.

Jack: Yeah, it was a heart attack, very sudden, unexpected, and, of course, premature.

Kyle: [ Exhales sharply ] How are you doing?

Jack: I think I’m still in shock. It’s — it’s been a lot to deal with.

Kyle: I can only imagine.

Jack: And that’s not all. Keemo has a daughter. Her name is allie. I met her today. She’s lovely, bright, and energetic and full of spunk just like her father.

Kyle: My god, that means —

Jack: That means you have a niece and harrison has a brand-new cousin.

Kyle: This has got to be huge for you.

Jack: Yeah, it’s complicated even more by the fact that…he didn’t want her to know i existed.

Kyle: Seriously, nothing?

Jack: Not even my name. In fact, he claimed he never even met his father at all, which gives you some indication of just how bad things were between us.

Kyle: How’s allie handling this?

Jack: I think her world’s been turned upside down on the heels of losing her father. I’m trying to be very careful and not push her or pressure her in any way.

Kyle: Sounds wise.

Jack: Yeah, it’s a delicate time. I don’t know where any of this is gonna go.

Kyle: Dad, I’m always here for you. Anytime, just say the word.

Jack: Thank you, son. I appreciate that.

Kyle: It’s what our family does. I have no doubt in the brief time you spent with allie she realized that.

Victoria: I haven’t changed my mind. I know that you’re innocent.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] Thank you.

Victoria: I just — I’m a little bit shocked at the level of deception that has gone into this and how carefully it’s all been planned. We need to figure out who’s behind this and we need to do that really fast, because the evidence, it’s just growing. It’s growing against you, and it’s just gonna affect everything.

Ashland: I am well aware of how well this campaign is working. Poisoning people’s minds against me just when my condition is finally improving. I should be — I should be celebrating, right? Everything life has to offer. Standing at the top of the world with my beautiful wife. I refuse to let them rob me of this. Rob us.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

[ Sighs ] Sorry.

Victoria: What now?

Ashland: It’s nate. He wants to meet with me.

Victoria: Does he say why?

Ashland: Nope. But I’m pretty sure your father’s been working on him, making me look as guilty as hell.

Victoria: Or maybe — maybe he wants to tell you that he — he’s behind you 100% and that he knows these accusations are not true.

Ashland: You’re right. I shouldn’t jump to the worst possible outcome.

Victoria: No, you shouldn’T.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] I just feel under siege right now. Like I’m waiting for the next attack.

[ Chuckles ] But nate’s a good man, he’s a decent man. He knows my medical records and he knows me.

Victoria: Nate is your friend and he’s your confidante. That’s not gonna disappear overnight.

Ashland: Thank you for reminding me of that.

Victoria: Yeah.

Ashland: I know…with you by my side, I’m gonna get through this. Most bladder leak pads were similar.

Sally: Okay. Of course I’m flying a little blind here, not knowing what the situation is exactly. But victor has made it very clear that he’s gonna look out for victoria, right? And ashland’s gonna look out for himself, like always. And victoria is going to protect her pride and her family with one notable exception. That leaves you to look out for yourself with me backing you the whole way, and if that means that you have to step up and fill a leadership void, so be it. Victor, I did not see you there.

Victor: Could I have a moment with my son, please?

Adam: We — we can follow up later, sally. I was starting to think you were ignoring me.

Victor: I have a lot on my mind, my son. Nothing to do with you, okay?

Adam: Okay.

Victor: [ Exhales sharply ] Tried talking to victoria. She won’t listen to me.

Adam: Even with all the evidence that you’ve gathered against ashland?

Victor: She seems to be too much in love with that man. She can’t believe that he would betray her like this.

Adam: Okay, but then what is the plan? I mean, I assume you have a plan, one that I can help you with to get rid of locke before he digs his claws further into this company.

Victor: I’ve talked to nicholas. I asked him to speak with victoria.

Adam: I mean, that — that’s it? You got to be kidding me.

Ashland: Hey. I hope I didn’t keep you waiting. I got here as quick as I could.

Nate: Have a seat.

Ashland: Okay. Uh…huh. Victor, uh…has got to you, hasn’t he? No, it really doesn’t surprise me. I mean, he tried once, didn’t succeed, tried again. Victor is trying to poison your mind against me, which I find reprehensible, but here we are. So what did he say? Uh, I’m sure it has something to do with how I supposedly lied about my illness, but you know better than that. Don’t you? You’ve seen my test results.

Nate: Hmm. The confirmation of your late-stage cancer.

Ashland: Mm-hmm.

Nate: Yes, I saw that. But after we spoke, it dawned on me — those results were all i had to go on. And they came from you.

Ashland: I’m not sure I like where this is going.

Nate: I didn’t like it much either.

Ashland: So what exactly are you saying, nate?

Nate: I hate the thought that someone would use a horrible disease for financial gain or, worse yet, to deceive victoria and her entire family. Plus, I don’t like being used. So I dug deeper.

Phyllis: Well, you had a good talk to kyle. I’m glad.

Jack: Yeah. By the time he hung up, I think his head was spinning.

Phyllis: Mm, think he can handle it.

Jack: It’s amazing, he never got to meet his older brother. And now he never will.

Phyllis: Don’t go down that path. No good can come of that.

Jack: No, no, you’re right, you’re right. The…

[ Sighs ] …Silver lining, if there is one, is that keemo’s death will not be a loss for kyle. Actually, he was only worried about me. Tried to reassure me that things went well in the way things ended with allie.

Phyllis: That’s very kind. He’s a good — he’s a good kid. And he’s tough, like his dad.

Jack: I probably haven’t said this enough, but thank you for being here with me. I — I know you keep saying it’s nothing, but you put your whole life on hold and came halfway across the country with me.

Phyllis: I was happy to do it. Alright? And you don’t have to keep on thanking me.

Jack: No, I want to. Thank you for prodding me. Thank you for knowing when to lay off. I know you bit your tongue a couple of times —

Phyllis: It didn’t draw blood. It’s okay. No blood.

Jack: Okay, red. Time to go home. Allie.

Allie: I’m glad I caught you before you left. (Michael) copd is harder on the folks around you, I think.

Allie: I hope you don’t mind I came by again.

Jack: No, not at all. Please, come in.

Allie: Thank you. Um… I found something of my father’s in my apartment that I thought you might want to have.

Jack: It — it’s exquisite.

Allie: It was created by one of my dad’s favorite artists. He kept it in his study, where he’d be sure to see it every day.

Jack: It’s beautiful, but if it’s important to you, I could not possibly take it.

Allie: I think you should have it. The rift and my dad…it ran deep. But despite everything, it’s so obvious how much you cared about him.

Jack: [ Sniffles ]

Allie: I know that you’re hurting, and so here’s something for you to hold on to. A little piece of your son.

Jack: Thank you. This means the world to me. The fact that you brought it here yourself…it was a lovely, kind, brave thing to do. And I won’t forget it.

Allie: I haven’t changed my mind…about…this. Us. I’m sorry, but I have a lot that I’m going through, with graduate school, dealing with all the legalities of my dad’s death. It’s a lot. And then…and then I have to learn how to move forward without him. Something I haven’t even started to contemplate.

Jack: I understand.

Allie: I know you were hoping for more, but it’s all I can handle right now. It’s all I want.

Jack: And I respect that.

Nick: Hey.

Victoria: Where do you get the nerve to show your face here?

Nick: You know, vick, you’ve been furious at me for months, and when you’re not yelling at me, you’re acting incredibly distant. And at the risk of making things worse, here I am, because i can’t walk away from this. I can’t just ignore what’s happening.

Victoria: What, do you mean dad and his absurd accusations about my husband?

Nick: Dad asked me to come and try and make you see reason. I don’t have any illusions about how you’re gonna react.

Victoria: Then why bother?

Nick: Because you are my sister, and I care about you. I care about your happiness.

Victoria: Then why are you still trying to destroy my marriage?

Nate: You made a point of mentioning your cancer was discovered on a chest x-ray following your heart attack. So I went back into the hospital archives to see the photos for myself. Which I realize crossed a bright red line, ethically speaking. But it told me everything i needed to know. There’s no evidence of cancer on any of those scans.

Ashland: Hmm. Well, uh, you must have reviewed the wrong x-rays or maybe they got mixed up with somebody else’s.

Nate: I considered that, and I double-checked. There’s no mistake.

Ashland: There must have been some kind of manipulation involved or maybe some human error along the way. Look, is that — is that why you looked so grim when I walked in the door here? You think this is somehow proof of victor’s wild accusations against me?

Nate: I anticipated that would be your response, so…I broadened my search. Went looking for your chemotherapy treatments — only I couldn’t find any. It seems there’s no record of you ever having chemo at memorial or any of our affiliated infusion centers. Victor’s right, isn’t he? You don’t have cancer. It’s all been one big, colossal lie. Want more restful sleep?

Jack: Allie, I want you to know I would never force any kind of a relationship on you. I recently lost my mother. I have some idea of the enormity of what you’re dealing with. None of it is easy.

Allie: I appreciate you saying that.

Jack: Thank you for this. I hope you find peace soon. I wish you well in all of your endeavors.

Allie: Same to you. If you’re ever back in la in the future, maybe we could, um, get together or something. Go for coffee.

Jack: I would like that very much. And if you’re ever in the midwest — chicago, wisconsin — I’d love to take you for coffee or dinner. Allie, you have my number. If you need anything, anything at all, just call me. I mean that.

Allie: Yeah. Um… well, um…goodbye.

Jack: Until we meet again. Wow.

Adam: Nick is your strategy for dealing with locke? How’s that gonna work? Because there’s still a lot of distance between him and victoria. And, what, he’s gonna wave his little magic wand or invoke his special sibling bond to get victoria to turn against her husband? Look, victoria has made her stand. She’s impervious to logic at this point, and now she’s putting the company in the hands of some ruthless shark. But, see, we knew that. We knew who ashland was. So, dad, the one who failed this family is victoria.

Nick: I want to see how you’re doing. You know, how you’re really doing. I can’t imagine the pressure you’re under. I also wanted to find out if there’s a chance, if you changed your mind about ashland. You know, if you consider that he may have betrayed you. I know it’s brutal to even think about, but…I also want you to know that…if you need a sounding board or just someone to vent to, I’m here. I’m always here for you.

Victoria: I don’t know what to believe anymore.

[ Sighs ] It can’t be true. Can it?

Ashland: One phone call, and I could have your medical license revoked for what you’ve done.

Nate: Go ahead. Knock yourself out. I was leaving the field anyway. Oh, to come work for you. How ironic.

Ashland: Hmm. So now that you have this illegally obtained information, which is what it is…what do you plan to do with it?

Nate: You left me no choice. I have to inform victor and victoria of what I’ve learned.
