Diane: I’d ask how you got in here, but that’s just who you are, isn’t it? Would you like a drink?

Victor: This is not a social visit.

Diane: Of course not. Hmm. I’ve been expecting you. I’m sure that as soon as she spoke with me, nikki ran write to you — “guess what.” I’m surprised it took you this long to show up. Maybe you’re slowing down a bit.

Victor: I’m as fast as I’ve always been. How about you? How fast would you get out of genoa city? Your visit here will be a short one.

Mariah: Kyle?

Kyle: Hey, mariah.

Mariah: Hi! I had no idea that you were home from milan. How long are you here for? Can I join you? I’m so glad you’re here because we have so much to catch up on.

Sally: Why is sneaking away to a hotel in the middle of the day so sexy?

Adam: Well, I think it is the juxtaposition of normal, mundane midday tasks with something amazing.

Sally: Mm-hmm, that was more of a rhetorical question, but thank you.

[ Chuckles ]

Adam: But I will say getting a suite in phyllis’ hotel without her knowing makes it extra hot.

Sally: Look at us, two people who just admitted to each other that we are falling in love, having a little romantic rendezvous. Wait. Are we becoming a couple?

Adam: I don’t know, I wasn’t expecting any of this.

Sally: Me neither. We made such an effort to keep things professional, but this is definitely not professional.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, all those declarations that nothing is going on between us. Although I will say that I sold that a little more than you did.

Sally: Not true. All of my assurances to chloe and to chelsea and even you were legit, because I did not want to ruin my chances at newman fashion or newman media.

Adam: And now newman/locke.

Sally: Actually, what was most important to me was not ruining my chances with what i really wanted.

Adam: And what is that?

Sally: You.

Billy: You’re up and around. That’s good to see.

Victoria: I’m walking, hooray.

Billy: Are you in pain?

Victoria: No, I — I am — I’m feeling okay. Guess I’m pretty lucky, all things considered.

Billy: Yeah. It’s tragic about rey.

Victoria: I wish I hadn’t been out there driving on that road. Maybe things would’ve turned out differently.

Billy: You can’t think that way, vick. It was an accident. It wasn’t your fault.

Victoria: Right. Many people have assured me of that.

Billy: Why were you out there on that road? That’s not your usual way home.

Victoria: I thought you said that you didn’t blame me, and now you’re asking me how I got myself into this predicament.

Billy: I’m not blaming you. I’m just trying to put the pieces together and understand what happened. Ashland was out there, but he wasn’t in the car with you. He was in his own car. Was he following you? Hi, I’m karen.

Diane: Threatening helpless women? That’s really not your style. Or is that you’ve become these days — a common thug?

Victor: Hmm. I would never threaten a helpless creature of any kind, you know? But when someone as venomous and potentially evil as you comes across my path, all bets are off.

Diane: Relax, I mean no harm.

Victor: Then pack your damn bag. Get out of town before they find out you’re here.

Diane: I know that most of the citizens of genoa city don’t care for me, and I’m sure they’ll be surprised to find out that I’m alive.

Victor: They won’t like to hear it.

Diane: Yeah, well, I didn’t expect a welcome home party. But I figure if I stick around long enough, eventually they’ll tolerate me.

Victor: Don’t hold your breath, okay?

Diane: Phyllis is putting up with me. I’m — I’m staying in her hotel.

Victor: She’s putting up with you because she’ll keep an eye on you this way.

Diane: Probably.

Victor: Mm. So enough with chit-chat.

Diane: Fine. I’m sure nikki filled you in on my metamorphosis.

Victor: It was a bunch of bull. You don’t transform into someone else after a few sessions of therapy.

Diane: I’m guessing that’ll be the consensus around town.

Victor: Right.

Diane: So only newmans are allowed to change.

Victor: What do you mean?

Diane: Oh, please. Nikki has become the pious poster child for sobriety and clean living. She’s traveled quite a distance from when you first met. And your son adam, he’s turned into this respectable family man, putting aside all those nasty tricks from his past.

Victor: My wife and my son evolved in what they are now after many years.

Diane: Victor, I have zero expectations from anyone in this town, including you. So you can keep your threats to yourself. I’m here for one reason only — to explain to my son why I did what I did all those years ago and ask for his forgiveness.

Kyle: You look great.

Mariah: That is so nice. And so true.

[ Both laugh ]

Kyle: I missed you.

Mariah: I missed you more.

Kyle: I’m just here on business. Dad needed me in genoa city.

Mariah: Oh, I didn’t hear anything about that at jabot.

Kyle: It was very short notice. I didn’t have time to tell anybody.

Mariah: Got it. So snowflake’s not with you? Is she, like, the mayor of milan now? Contessa?

Kyle: Summer is wonderful. She had to stay in italy to oversee marchetti’s new season launch. So it’s just me and harrison on this trip.

Mariah: Aww. A daddy-son trip — I love it. So how long are you staying?

Kyle: Not sure. It — it depends.

Mariah: Depends on what?

Kyle: Um, a couple things. A few issues to work out.

Mariah: Okay. Well, I hope those issues are very complicated and take a long time to resolve because tessa and I are getting married on may 13th. So please, please say that you will still be here. I mean, you were the first champion of our love, and the wedding wouldn’t be the same without you.

Adam: Mm. As much as I would love to stay here all day, we should get back to the office.

Sally: Do we have to?

Adam: There is so much at stake, and things could change any minute, so the answer is yes.

Sally: Okay. But before we go, there’s something that I need to ask you before we get dressed and put on our work personas.

Adam: What is it?

Sally: How did it go with sharon? I know you went to see her to offer your condolences, but you never said what happened.

Adam: [ Sighs ] It, um…it was hard.

Sally: Look, I don’t want to pry, okay? So if you don’t want to talk about it…

Adam: No, I’m okay. I just… sharon’s in a lot of pain. She has a lot of anger and grief, and it’s all very raw. Rey was a good man. He was good to her, so it’s a — it’s a shock and she’s struggling.

Sally: Are you glad you went?

Adam: Yeah. Yeah, she has a lot of people around to help her — she has nick and her kids — but she did say that I was the first person that she really broke down in front of. I pushed her, I told her that she could be herself around me, but she was trying to keep a lid on it, but the emotions just came pouring out. You don’t really want to hear this, do you?

Victoria: I really don’t want to get into it anymore. I wish that it had never happened. I don’t want to relive the accident or what led up to it.

Billy: Okay. I got to say, you make the cane look cool.

Victoria: I’m not afraid to whack you with it if I need to.

Billy: You know, it feels like you’re doing your best to avoid me ever since we had that conversation about ashland’s cancer scam. Do you regret being vulnerable with me?

Victoria: I regret most of my conversations with you.

Billy: Geez, I hope that’s not true. I really liked being there for you. It’s only fair with the amount of times you were there for me over the years.

Victoria: It’s not a contest, billy.

Billy: No, I know that, but it felt good that you were able to confide in me. Because you can. You know that, right?

Victoria: Yes, I do.

Billy: Can I ask you one more question?

[ Sighs ] Is ashland locke still in your life?

Kyle: I will do everything in my power to be here for your wedding. I’m so happy for you and tessa. I didn’t realize you had set a date.

Mariah: Oh, yeah, it’s coming together pretty quickly. It’s why you haven’t gotten a save-the-date e-mail yet. Yeah, we’ve had some — some complications.

Kyle: You mean rey’s death. I’m so sorry to hear about that. I heard from lola. She’s devastated.

Mariah: I know. She loved her brother so much.

Kyle: How are you doing?

Mariah: Um…I’m in shock. And I miss him. But I’m mostly concerned for my mom. You know, we wanted to push the wedding date back, but she wouldn’t let us. I think planning it brings her joy, and I certainly want her to have that.

Kyle: When your life turns upside down, you need touchstones and to have a purpose.

Mariah: Yeah. We want the wedding to be meaningful and symbolic, so we asked nick and my mom to walk us down the aisle.

Kyle: Those are perfect choices.

Mariah: And we were also thinking about who else we would like standing up there with us.

Kyle: [ Chuckles ] I see where you’re going with this.

Mariah: Are you interested?

Kyle: I would be honored to be your man of honor.

Mariah: Oh, um…sorry, not so fast. We had a different role in mind for you.

Kyle: Um…I didn’t mean to assume.

Mariah: No, no, no, we have a more important role in mind for you. How would you feel about officiating our wedding?

Victor: Kyle is now a member of the newman fold, alright?

Diane: Because he married your granddaughter.

Victor: And that means he’ll be accorded the security of a newman.

Diane: Whatever that means.

Victor: That means I have his back.

Diane: I just got back from reuniting with kyle. A meeting that jack helped arrange.

Victor: Really? That was a huge mistake on jack’s part.

Diane: No, I don’t think so. I had a positive first conversation with kyle. He’s married and in love, and I’m thrilled for him. And I promise I’m not going to do anything to interfere or make him upset in any way.

Victor: You’re delusional if you think you’d come back to town here and bring people peace and happiness. Especially not to your son kyle, whom you abandoned.

Diane: Victor, I mean no harm. I only want what’s best for kyle.

Victor: If that is the case, you’d get your behind on a bus, get the hell out of town. There’s one good thing. You know who I am and you know what I’m capable of. And it’s far more than sneaking into your hotel suite.

Diane: [ Exhales sharply ]

Victoria: I am not sharing any details about what happened between ashland and me.

Billy: I don’t need details. Maybe just some broad strokes.

Victoria: Alright. Ashland is leaving newman/locke and we are having our marriage annulled.

Billy: Well, that is a relief. I hope that means that you are finally believing the truth about him and that ashland is leaving town.

Victoria: I don’t know. I haven’t — I haven’t talked to him.

Billy: You haven’t talked to him since the accident?

Victoria: Briefly.

Billy: How briefly?

Victoria: Billy, I don’t see how this is any of your concern.

Billy: Look, I’m sure this is very conflicting for you. I mean, he saved your life, but that does not absolve him of his many crimes, and I — I just hope that he still doesn’t have a hold over you.

Victoria: I wish you would stop trying to psychoanalyze me.

Billy: Okay. I apologize.

Victoria: I know the only reason you’re doing this is so that you can say “I told you so.” I know — I know that I made a mistake with ashland, and I know you tried to warn me and I — i should’ve listened to you and to nicholas instead of dismissing your concerns. But the past is the past and it can’t be undone. The only thing that I can do right now is move forward, and that’s exactly what I intend to do.

[ Sighs ]

Lily: Victoria, hi.

Victoria: Hi, lily.

Lily: I’m really sorry to hear about the accident, and i hope that you’re feeling better.

Victoria: Well, you can ask billy about it because he seems to know everything.

Lily: What was that about? No matter who you are,

Billy: I think victoria is a little sensitive at the moment.

Lily: Well, what did you say to her?

Billy: I didn’t say anything bad, I really didn’T. I was simply showing concern for the mother of my children, because the truth is she could’ve been killed in that car accident.

Lily: Yeah, I understand that, but clearly she didn’t want to hear what you had to say.

Billy: No, then i inadvertently hit a nerve.

Lily: How?

Billy: I brought up ashland, and she got a little sensitive.

Lily: Well, she probably thinks it’s none of your business.

Billy: Yeah, that’s what she said.

Lily: I’m sure she doesn’t want you looking for ways to blame ashland.

Billy: Well, it’s so easy because he’s a criminal. And the truth is I feel like this whole situation is going to affect her judgment.

Lily: She’s still the same smart, savvy woman she’s been.

Billy: I know that.

Lily: I mean, is this a pattern with you, where you feel like you have to save the women in your life? Is that gonna happen with us? Are you gonna think that I can’t solve my own problems and you’re gonna interfere, whether I want you to or not?

Sally: Of course I want to hear about sharon. That’s why I asked. I want you to feel like you can tell me anything. Openness is the basis of our relationship. It’s why I told you about my past and the scam with the terminal illness, and I hope it’s why you told me about yours. We have baggage. But not with each other, and i want to keep it that way.

Adam: I concur.

Sally: So I’m glad that you went to see sharon. And I know that it can be hard helping someone through their grief, so I’m here if you need to talk.

Adam: Well, thank you.

Sally: And just so you know, I’m not jealous of sharon. Or chelsea. Might sound cocky, but I am pretty confident in our relationship.

Adam: Well, that is good to hear. And it’s different for me.

Sally: In what way?

Adam: At various times, I’ve been married, I’ve been obsessed and destructive and detached. But this — this is something else. Maybe because it began slowly. But it feels so right.

Sally: Very right. And you don’t feel guilty.

Adam: What do you mean?

Sally: Well, sharon is suffering and alone. And we’re happy. And dare I say it again — falling in love.

Adam: If anything, seeing sharon made me realize we might be taking this too slowly. And that may be the reason why i finally confessed that I’m falling in love with you, too. I mean, why waste time worrying about what other people think? Anything can happen. Life can change in an instant, so we need to grab every moment we can.

Sally: I couldn’t agree more.

[ Chuckles ] Mm. [ Chuckles ]

Victor: Adam, I’m in the office. You’re not here, but I need to talk to you, alright?

Nikki: There you are. I’ve been trying to reach victoria. Have you heard from her?

Victor: No.

Nikki: She’s not in her office, she’s not answering her calls or messages.

Victor: Well, why don’t i have someone look for her?

Nikki: No, that’s alright. I’m late for a meeting. I just can’t stand victoria not knowing.

Victoria: Not knowing what?

Nikki: Oh, I’m glad you’re here. We’ve been trying to reach you.

Victoria: I know. Look, I’m sorry I haven’t responded, but I’m just really not in the mood for any lectures about ashland. I’ve had enough of them for today.

Nikki: It’s not about that.

Victoria: Well, what is it then?

Nikki: Rey rosales.

Victoria: Mom, please, not right now.

Nikki: You are going to want to hear this. It’s about what caused the accident.

Victoria: Look, I don’t want to get into it. I really don’T. I have told chance everything that I can remember. I know everybody tells me that I’m not to blame, but then everybody else wants to hear more details, and it’s quite clearly my fault.

Victor: Will you kindly listen to your mother?

Nikki: The autopsy showed that rey had a heart attack. That’s what caused the accident and what caused his death.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Better skin from your body wash?

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] I’m relieved. I really feel terrible that that’s my first reaction, but I couldn’t stop blaming myself for rey’s death.

Nikki: Darling, it’s natural to feel relief. That’s why we wanted you to learn this news right away.

Victor: I hope this alleviates some of your guilt.

Victoria: Even though the accident was — was not my responsibility, I mean, it was still a tragedy and I was still involved. It’s gonna take me a little bit of time to put that behind me, i think.

Nikki: You’re right. But I hope this news helps. I wish I could stay longer and talk through this with you, but I have a meeting with the logistics team. I’ll call you later?

Victoria: Thank you, mom. The news did help. I just — I feel a little —

Nikki: Honey, you don’t have to explain. You’ve been through so much the last few weeks.

Victoria: I love you.

Nikki: I love you too.

Victoria: Okay. Well, I should get going, too. I came by looking for adam.

Victor: No, no, no, no. You and I need to…discuss something.

Victoria: And what’s that?

Victor: Adam’s position at newman/locke.

Victoria: Yes, that’s actually why I came by to talk to him. Do you know where he is?

Victor: Mnh-mnh. He’ll be here shortly.

Victoria: I came to tell him that his services as ceo are no longer needed.

Victor: I think that’s a mistake.

Victoria: Why? Why would you think that? Nothing has changed since this morning. I told you I’m ready to go back to work. We no longer need a temporary ceo.

Victor: [ Sighs ] Sweetheart, I admire and respect your desire to go back, but for heaven’s sake, you have a lot on your plate. Think of what you’ve gone through. Why not have adam be co-ceo?

Victoria: So we would just run the company together, adam and me?

Victor: Yes, adam and you. I think it’s time that the newmans show a united front, especially nowadays, you know?

Victoria: My answer is no. No, I don’t want and I don’t need adam in the mix. I was doing fine before ashland came along, and I will do fine now. I’ve accomplished a lot at newman, and we will be dropping the name “locke” as soon as possible. We’re gonna go back to the original name of newman enterprises.

Victor: I like that.

Victoria: I had a feeling you would.

Victor: But, sweetheart, we need to discuss adam’s position.

Victoria: There’s nothing to discuss. And if you’re going to force the issue, then you’re gonna have to make a choice — adam or me.

Billy: This is not a pattern. I never doubt your ability to handle any situation that you face. And I am very aware that the women in my life are smarter and more capable than I am. But that does not prevent me from being concerned about ashland locke.

Lily: I know that you don’t trust him.

Billy: I do not trust him, but it is past that at this point. I have a deep hatred for that man. He lied about having cancer. That must strike a chord with you.

Lily: Of course it does. It does, but I still don’t understand your need to interfere.

Billy: I don’t —

[ Sighs ] I — I’m advising victoria, okay? She can choose to listen to me or not. Victor is interfering. I’m not that bad.

Lily: Yeah, not yet.

Billy: Actually, victor and i may end up on the same side of this problem — doing anything we can to get ashland out of town.

Lily: What are you talking about?

Billy: Well, he’s still here. I mean, he was following her when that accident happened. He’s been kicked to the curb at newman/locke, and their marriage is being annulled, but yet, he’s still here. So to me, that means he’s up to something. Is he plotting revenge? I don’t know. But it’s ashland locke, so it’s not gonna be good.

Kyle: Officiating at your wedding, um…that’s a real honor, but I — I don’t know if I can say yes.

Mariah: It’s simple. You know, you can just get ordained online. I’ll even set you up.

Kyle: No, it’s not that.

Mariah: I mean, do you not want to do it?

Kyle: No, not at all, I would love to. It’s just, um…I’m — I’m dealing with some personal things right now, and I can’t commit to such an important role. I wouldn’t want to let you down.

Mariah: Well, you just said that you would do anything to be there, so what could possibly force you to let us down?

Kyle: Um…things come up.

Mariah: What is it? Is it something with you and summer? Oh, god, I hope not.

Kyle: No, no, no, we’re fine. We’re great, in fact.

Mariah: Look, I know that we haven’t talked a lot lately. You know, time zones and wedding planning — don’t even get me started on the adoption process. But you have always been somebody that I can count on. And I hope you feel the same way about me.

Kyle: You know that I do.

Mariah: So please tell me what’s going on, because it’s — it’s becoming increasingly obvious that something is wrong.

Kyle: Yeah, yeah, something is wrong, and…I’m still in shock. I’m not sure how I’m supposed to react.

Mariah: Kyle, what is going on?

Kyle: Can we go back to the house? This needs to be a very private conversation. I could really use your friendship right now. What are you recommending

Victor: I think you’re acting rashly. You haven’t thought this through.

Victoria: I don’t have to think it through. I know how I feel without having to do a deeper dive.

Victor: What happened to you lately has taken a toll on you, whether you like it or not. Two traumas — one, you find out that ashland locke bastard lied to you, is a total fraud. Number two, you almost got killed in an accident. What the hell are you talking about? You need time to process all this.

Victoria: I can handle it.

Victor: Why are you being so stubborn? Why don’t you let adam help you?

Victoria: My injuries are not that severe.

Victor: I’m not just talking about your physical maladies.

Victoria: As far as the emotional goes, yes, ashland hurt me, yes, he lied to me, but he’s out of my life now. End of story.

Victor: I happen to know that that son of a bitch has surreptitiously snuck into your office, playing on your emotions. I know he does. And he will continue to do so. And I’m not so sure if you’ve purged yourself of that bastard.

Victoria: Will you ever be able to give me full credit for being able to control my emotions? Your second guessing me is relentless, and I am done with it. If you choose adam, fine, he stays, but I go, and I will not look back.

Adam: Good to see you on your feet, victoria. Good for you. Gave us a real scare there.

Victoria: Thank you.

Adam: What did I miss?

Victoria: Dad will fill you in.

Victor: We have a problem, son.

Lily: Look, I despise what ashland did. And as a cancer survivor, i absolutely think that he should pay for the scam that he tried to pull. But we agreed that you were gonna let this go, because if you don’t, you’ll be fixated on it. And it’s gonna drive you crazy, and I do not want to watch you go down that same road again. So, please, I am asking you for the last time, please stop.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] There’s no easy way to say it, so I’ll just come out with it. My mom, she’S…alive.

Mariah: What?

Kyle: Diane is alive, and she’s here in genoa city.

Mariah: Okay. How? Why?

Kyle: She conspired to fake her death all those years ago to get a fresh start. She’s been living in los angeles rebuilding her life. She claims she’s changed.

Mariah: What is she doing in genoa city now?

Kyle: Trying to make amends.

Mariah: Amends?

[ Scoffs ] Amends — that’s, uh — that is —

Kyle: Insufficient?

Mariah: I mean, after all of your pain and all of those years, yes, absolutely yes.

Kyle: Yeah. She claims she was trying to protect me. She didn’t want to mess up my life.

Mariah: Thinking your mother is — is dead when she isn’t, there’s — there’s not much more messed up than that.

Kyle: I know, I know. She had a lot of explanations, and most of them were garbage, but some of them got to me. I mean, is it possible for someone to change that much?

Mariah: Uh…I don’t know. I would like to think so, obviously. I’m so sorry, kyle. I’m so sorry that this is happening to you. You don’t deserve it. And even if she has explanations, that doesn’t mean those are answers. And that’s what you need.

Kyle: After talking to her, I have a bunch more questions.

Mariah: So what does she want from you?

Kyle: Time to explain herself.

Mariah: With intention of a mother-son relationship? I mean, that’s a lot to ask.

Kyle: It is, which is why I’m drinking in the afternoon and i don’t know which way is up. New lash paradise mascara from l’oreal paris.

Adam: Let me guess — victoria has no interest in me staying on in a leadership role.

Victor: Let’s discuss that later, okay? Meanwhile, there’s something very urgent for us to discuss.

Adam: Well, what could possibly be more urgent than the future of newman?

Victor: Diane jenkins. She’s alive. She’s back in town.

Mariah: So what are you thinking? What do you want to do? How can I support you?

Kyle: I don’t know. My instinct is to say yes and welcome my mom back into my life. There are so many things i missed out on as a kid.

Mariah: I know. I get that. I bet this seems like a fairy tale, you know, getting this opportunity for a second chance.

Kyle: Exactly. I mean, you get it. My dad is nervous about the whole thing, but he’s worried I’m gonna get hurt. But how can I turn down an opportunity like this? We can forge a new relationship. It’s kind of like when I found out about harrison. Whole son I didn’t know I had.

Mariah: Yes, but it’s different. Harrison wasn’t pretending to be dead.

Kyle: I know, and I know fairy tales aren’t real, but this is everything I wished for as a kid. For my mom to be here again. And here she is. It’s amazing.

Mariah: Yes. But I’m just — I am afraid that you are setting yourself up to be hurt. Okay? Kyle, how can you trust her? How can you just let her walk back into your life? And why on earth would you let her anywhere near summer or harrison?

Diane: Jack, um…it’s me. I was hoping you’d pick up. In case you’re wondering, kyle’s reaction wasn’t what I was hoping for, but I guess it’s all I can expect right now. I did what I came to do, and i hope that there will be more in the future, but I guess there’s no guarantees. And that is why I am leaving for los angeles in the morning.

Diane: [ Sighs ] Kyle… I-I…

[ Sighing ] Thank you… for agreeing to meet with me, for, us — for giving me this chance to explain myself.

[ Sighs ]

Kyle: You’ve got a hell of a lot of explaining to do. Come in.

Diane: Okay.

[ Sighs ]

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: Okay, how are you doing?

Jack: Kyle and diane are meeting at the house right now, and I can’t stop wondering how it’s going.

Phyllis: That makes two of us.

Jack: I was hoping kyle might text and tell me he changed his mind, he doesn’t want to see her.

[ Places cellphone on table loudly ]

Phyllis: Yeah, this is big. A lot of potential for, you know, discomfort.

Jack: What’s that a euphemism for? Uh, go ahead, finish your thought.

Phyllis: You want to protect your son. I understand.

Jack: No, it’s more than that. I helped facilitate this meeting. Now I’m second-guessing myself.

[ Sighs ] I wonder if I made a big mistake, and if I did, kyle’s gonna be the one who pays the price.

[ Sighs ]

[ Doorknob rattles]

[ Door closes ]

Chance: [ Sighs ]

Abby: Rough day?

Chance: [ Sighs ] Yeah, I just talked to sharon. I had to explain to my partner’s wife exactly how and why her husband died.

Abby: The autopsy report came in?

Chance: Yeah. Rey suffered a massive coronary while he was driving.

Abby: Uh… rey had a heart attack?

Chance: That’s why he lost control of the car and swerved into the other lane.

Abby: [ Sighs ] I had assumed the accident happened because of the fog or — or some obstacle in the road.

Chance: Yeah, I did, too. I talked to ashland, got some more details, and something just didn’t add up. Now I know why.

Abby: Chance, that’s just — it’s so awful.

Chance: There’s just nothing anyone could have done. Rey’s fate was sealed that night when he said goodbye to sharon. He had no idea he’d never see her again.

[ Sighs ] Just like that, he was gone.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Diane: It’s been so long since I’ve stepped foot inside this house. So many memories.

[ Sighs ]

Kyle: I’ve got a million questions. But now that you’re here, I — I don’t know where to begin.

Diane: I wish I could make this easier for you, but nothing about this is easy. I’m — I’m — I’m sure you’re confused and certainly angry.

Kyle: For starters. Beyond that, I — I don’t know how to feel.

Diane: Well, for the record, kyle, I’m not expecting anything from you, except maybe an open mind. And since you were willing to meet with me, I — I hope you’ve decided to give me that much.

Chance: Thanks.

Abby: Poor sharon. And lola and all of rey’s family in miami. I feel so bad for them.

Chance: Yeah, me too.

Abby: [ Sighs ] I know that this has taken a toll on you, as well.

Chance: Rey helped me a hundred different times in a hundred different ways. You know, with work, family. When I was in a crisis, he was there. I mean, the guy is just not a — a colleague, he’s my best friend. And I miss him very much.

Abby: [ Inhales deeply ] You know, as cruel and senseless as life can be, it can also be beautiful. Don’t let the sadness and grief of this tragedy overwhelm you, like spain.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Chance: Are you expecting someone?

Abby: No, no, but whoever it is, they can wait. This is more important.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Chance: Let’s just — let’s see who it is.

Abby: Just tell them we’re busy, please.

[ Sighs ]

[ Door opens ]

Chance: Victor.

Victor: Hello, chance. May I come in?

Chance: Of course.

Victor: Thank you. Hi, sweetheart.

Abby: Daddy? Hi!

Victor: My goodness.

Abby: What are you doing here?

Victor: I don’t like to drop by unannounced, but is it okay?

Chance: Yeah, I’m actually glad you came by. There’s something you need to know.

Jack: We both know how manipulative diane can be, how she can talk her way out of a sunburn. Kyle’s already been sideswiped by all of this. Even if he resents everything she’s done, she’s till his mother, who is determined to reconnect with him, no matter what the cost. How to her?

Phyllis: Slow down. You did the right thing.

Jack: You sound awfully surePhyllis: I am sure. Kyle’s an adult. He can make his own decisions regarding diane. You know? You could only interject yourself into his life so much.

Jack: Yeah, you’re right. Thanks for the support. Thanks for giving me perspective again. And again and again.

Phyllis: Well, I am very mature. I have my feet firmly planted in the ground. You know?

Jack: I know you’re joking, but that certainly is true lately.

Phyllis: Aww. Hey, you know, kidding aside, let’s talk about something we haven’t looked at, at all. Um…you know, just in case it comes up, we should cover our bases.

[ Sighs ]

Diane: I’ve anticipated this day for so long, whereas you must be in shock.

Kyle: Don’t make assumptions about my state of mind when i barely know what it is myself.

Diane: Well, for me,

[Voice breaking] This is a dream come true…to — to be here with you and to, um, see your face.

Kyle: It’s been so long. Do you even recognize me?

Diane: [ Sighing ] Oh. I would know you anywhere.

[ Sniffles ]

Kyle: Me too. You look just like I remember.

Diane: [ Chuckles ] Well, that’s really kind of you to say after all these years.

Kyle: I’m not trying to flatter you. It’s the truth.

Diane: Well, I — I have to admit, I-I have seen some photos of you before. I — I followed your life through business press and social media.

Kyle: Lucky you. I certainly didn’t get that opportunity.

Diane: Well, that’s how i know what an amazing man you’re turned out to be. You’re a husband and a father, a — a leader at jabot, working alongside your dad. I am so proud and so impressed.

Kyle: Now, d-don’t make this about me. I agreed to this because I want to hear about you.

Diane: Alright. Uh, [Sniffles]… Ask me anything. I’m — I’m an open book.

Kyle: [ Inhales deeply ] I want to know why you faked your death when I was a kid, why you let me believe you’d been killed and never once reached out. What possible excuse could you have that could justify what you did? With golo, I’ve lost 13 inches in my waist.

Victor: He had a heart attack?

Chance: Afraid so.

Victor: Well, the prime of his life.

Abby: It’s just so awful.

Victor: It’s terrible. How is sharon handling it?

Chance: Well, the news hit her pretty hard, but at least she now has a definitive explanation for what happened.

Victor: Whoa. Has victoria been informed?

Chance: Tried reaching her. Couldn’t get through just yet. I know she’s felt pretty guilty about the whole accident. Just didn’t feel like this was the kind of message you want to leave on a voicemail.

Victor: Maybe I will inform her myself. What do you think?

Chance: Think it’s a good idea.

Victor: Alright.

Abby: Well, dad, you can’t just rush off. Why did you stop by here in the first place?

Victor: Sweetheart, I haven’t seen my grandson for a long time.

Abby: Okay, but just now really isn’t the best time.

Chance: He’s taking a nap.

Victor: Oh, well, then I’ll wait until he wakes up. Meanwhile, you and I can have a chat.

Abby: That’s a great idea. Um, let me go check in on him maybe.

Victor: Alright, sweetheart.

Abby: Be right back.

Chance: So, victor, what’s on your mind?

[ Footsteps ascending stairs ]

Kyle: Hearing you followed my life from a distance [Chuckles] That makes this so much worse. It’s like you cared enough to keep track but never enough to reach out to your own child.

Diane: I-I-I can see why you think that. But, kyle, I missed you every day, and I never stopped loving you.

Kyle: All evidence to the contrary.

Diane: Please, I’m trying to explain.

Kyle: You remember the last time we saw each other? I do. You — you were sending me off to switzerland to boarding school. You told me I had to pretend to be someone else, to go by a different name.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Kyle: And I went along with it because I was young and i trusted you with my whole being. You told me it wouldn’t be long until you joined me in europe, but that day never came. Dad’s the one who came for me, to break the news that you’d been killed and I was going home to live with him. So, tell me,

[Inhales deeply] When exactly did you decide I wasn’t worth coming for?

Diane: I always wanted to come for you.

Kyle: Yeah, okay, right, okay.

Diane: Kyle, look at me.

Kyle: [ Chuckles ]

Diane: I sent you away because I was in way over my head. I-I had pushed so many people in this town past their limit, and I was scared that they would retaliate by taking you away from me in the courts. Yes. The newmans and the abbotts — they — they don’t agree on much, but they are very powerful people and they all hated me. And they weren’t the only ones. I was desperate to escape. And then [Sighs] With deacon sharpe’s help, I — i found a way to, uh — to disappear.

Kyle: And by “disappear,” you mean “faked your own death.”

Diane: I had every intention of reuniting with you once I was safely away from genoa city. But then I realized that i couldn’T.

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Diane: [ Sighs ] My life as I knew it was over. And — and if I had come back for you or — or taken you with me, then I would have ruined your life, too. And I — I just couldn’t do that to you.

[ Sighs ]

Jack: Should I be worried?

Phyllis: Don’t be worried. I was just thinking, I mean, after all this grilling that kyle is doing of diane, what if he concludes that she’s sincere and he wants a relationship with her? What will you do?

Jack: I guess I’d tell my son to spend a little more time thinking about it, weigh the pros and cons of opening his life to someone with diane’s history. But if that didn’t change his mind, I’d have to honor his wishes and tell him to proceed with great caution.

Phyllis: Summer will back you on that. That’s for sure.

Jack: Because summer would be as wary of diane as you are.

Phyllis: Oh, please. If my daughter sees that diane’s intentions are less than pure, she will have a long talk with kyle. Not only that, she will find diane and get in her face and tell her to back off.

Jack: Well, let’s hope it doesn’t come to that. I just…

Phyllis: You just what?

Jack: If we’re looking at all the angles, there’s another one we have to think about?

Phyllis: What’s that?

Jack: What if it’s true?

Phyllis: What if what’s true?

Jack: What if, by some miracle, diane has managed to change herself? I mean, she seems sincere. What if it’s true? What if… maybe we should be giving her some benefit of the doubt? Facing expensive vitamin c creams with dull results?

Victor: Losing someone who was on the force with you must be quite a blow. I just wanted to see for myself how you were doing.

Chance: I, uh — I’m having a hard time believing that he’s actually gone. And all this has definitely stirred up the same kind of emotions that I had when my team was killed in that explosion. So, to answer your question, I’m managing. Abby can see how much this has weighed on me, and I know that worries her a lot.

Victor: And [Sighs] Rey was a good man. You know? Very sorry for your loss.

Chance: Thank you.

Victor: But, chance, let this be a reminder to embrace life. You know, you wake up in the mornings, look around you with a beautiful wife and beautiful son and spend a lot of time with them. Okay? Never know when it comes to an end.

Chance: Words to live by.

Victor: Not only so that you can heal, but more importantly, that you can be strong. You never know when your wife will need you, to lean on you.

Kyle: You might have told yourself you were looking out for me, that it would be best for me, growing up, considering I had a mother who was so damaged. But what I’m hearing is that you chose to abandon me.

Diane: You don’t know how much I wish I could have stayed with you. Leaving you was like leaving a piece of my soul behind.

Kyle: Words, mom!

Diane: No, kyle. You’re my only child. My pride and joy. Nothing has ever mattered to me as much as you.

[ Sighs ] But, back then, after — after all the terrible mistakes I had made, what did I have to offer you? A life on the run? Because that’s what it would have been.

[ Sighs ] Maybe some of the people in town would have accepted that I was gone, would have said “good riddance,” and — and moved on. But not jack. He would have never stopped looking for us. For you. I would have turned you into a fugitive right alongside me. And — and all the while, I was just falling apart at the seams.

Kyle: In other words, you didn’t want me dragging you down.

Diane: [ Sighs ] How could I put you through that? You — you were so much better off without me. I was toxic back then and for a long, long time afterwards. You deserved to be with jack, the parent who could give you the stability and the security that I couldn’T. A-a-and I-I-I think I made the right call, because without your father’s help, you — you wouldn’t have turned into the terrific man you are today.

Kyle: You may be right that having you as my one and only parent, in such a messed-up state, would have been a disaster for me.

Diane: Trust me… it would have been, and I — i don’t say that lightly.

Kyle: But at the time, all i knew was that I had lost my mom, who I adored. It was the worst, worst pain I’d ever experienced. An emptiness deep down inside that I wasn’t sure would ever heal.

[ Scoffs ] I couldn’t ever imagine letting my own son suffer like that.

Diane: [ Sighs ] I am [Sighs] — I am so sorry for how my actions wounded you.

[ Sobs ] But you would have paid a different, a far more terrible price if I would have continued to raise you on the run, away from so many people who loved you.

Kyle: My father did his best to fill the gaping hole that you left. Whenever I asked about you and the things you done, you should know, he did his best to answer in the most positive way possible. He never once teared you down in my eyes or tarnished the happy memories you and I shared.

Diane: [ Sighs ] I’m — I’m beyond grateful for that. Uh, I owe your father a-a-a huge debt for everything. Especially since it was more than I deserved. Because, back then, I was cruel and vindictive. I was greedy, I was dangerously ambitious, and [Sighs] God help the person who tried to stop me from getting what I wanted.

Kyle: I’m surprised you can admit that so freely.

Diane: I’m not going to hide anything from you, kyle. Never again. I can’T. Not if I have any hope of making you understand that I am not that person anymorE.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] So, you just admitted to a long list of terrible traits. Confessed to what a failure you were as a mother. But you’re telling me, you still managed to change. How am I supposed to believe that? No matter who you are,

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Chance: Thank you the wisdom, victor, as always. I mean, that is exactly what i needed.

Victor: Good. By the way, I wanted you to know how proud I am of how you and devon and abby have come together for dominic.

Chance: Yeah, things are working out well.

Victor: You know, I can hardly wait until the boy is old enough for me to tell him some stories, you know.

Chance: Well, tell him some sports stories, alright?

Victor: Oh, well, then I will tell him some stories about some great boxing matches.

Chance: There you go. I’m sure he’s gonna love that.

Victor: Well?

Abby: Well… his royal highness is awake and ready to see his grandpa.

Victor: Really? Well, then I will not keep his royal highness waiting.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Victor: Okay.

[ Footsteps ascending stairs ]

Abby: Well, looks like someone’s in better spirits. Is that an actual smile?

Chance: It might be, it might.

Abby: What did you two talk about while I was upstairs?

Chance: I know you were mad we got interrupted, but I think you’ll be happy your father stopped by.

Phyllis: Did you just say that we should give diane jenkins the benefit of the doubt?

Jack: It’s a question.

Phyllis: Then here’s an answer for you — no. Hell no. Where’s this coming from? You were just saying two seconds ago that diane is manipulative.

Jack: So you get to play devil’s advocate, but I don’t?

Phyllis: [ Exhales sharply ]

Jack: I’m just saying, I have had someone else in my life i couldn’t completely trust — my mother, who deserted not one child, but three. Yet, despite her estrangement from the family, despite all the things she did for so many years, when she came back into our lives late in her life seeking forgiveness, we were somehow able to reconcile. And I had an emotional connection with her that had been missing my whole life, and I value that. And, yes, as absurd as it seems that the same could be true in diane’s case, I am praying that the possibility exists for my son. That’s the kind of thing that turns a person around — a love for a child.

Phyllis: Okay, we’re not talking about a person. We’re talking about diane jenkins.

Jack: We’re making assumptions about somebody that we knew years ago. She may be different now.

Phyllis: Present day diane sent you a bunch of cryptic texts from la.

Jack: Yes, and united me with my granddaughter.

Phyllis: She could’ve done it 100 different ways, but she chose to be creepy and cryptic and duplicitous.

Jack: Okay, her methods, i will agree, are questionable, but the end result was positive.

Phyllis: That’s what she wanted. She wanted you to think, “oh, wow, wow, she reunited me with my granddaughter,” so in turn, you would reunite her with kyle. See, that was her plan. That is her plan! And look — look, we’re here again. It worked. It worked!

Jack: I am not grateful to diane for anything, but I can’t completely discount the possibility that some of what she says about her personal development is true.

Phyllis: Okay. I understand what you’re doing. I get it. You’re upset that maybe kyle will give diane the benefit of the doubt and you’re thinking of maybe all the ways it can work out. I-I understand that you’re doing this because you ache inside. I really do get it, but

[Chuckles] I’m sorry. To believe that diane is less of a sociopath than she was before, it’s — it’s not even in the realm of my understanding. It really isn’T. I can’t suspend my disbelief that much.

Jack: There are some people in this town who might say the same thing about you.

Phyllis: No one would say the same thing about me because you know what? I didn’t fake my own death. And I didn’t make somebody else possibly go down for it, okay? Like she did with nikki.

[ Exhales sharply ] I mean, and she’s here making all these proclamations that she’s a new woman and she’s learned and — and she’s understanding? No! I haven’t seen one iota of change in that woman. She hasn’t gained any trust from me. I’m sorry.

Jack: Okay, you’re absolutely right.

Phyllis: Yeah?

Jack: Yeah.

Phyllis: Okay, then don’t let your guard down with her, please.

Jack: Red, I won’T.

Kyle: You’re trying to convince me you’re this new and improved version of yourself, but look how you made this meeting happen. You lured my dad to la using keemo’s death and a granddaughter he never knew he had. You manipulated allie and my dad. You were secretive and deceitful.

Diane: No. No, no. I brought them together as a gesture of goodwill, and in order to do that, I needed to remain anonymous. If I had contacted your father directly, he would have just shot me down right away.

Kyle: Dad said that, too, but still, the way you went about things doesn’t make me want to trust you, especially when you could’ve just contacted me.

Diane: No, kyle. I couldn’t shock you like that, unprepared. I couldn’t just inject myself back into your life without warning. No, it was far better for jack to reach out to you and to break the news to you, and then you could decide whether you wanted to see me or not after you had a chance to think about things. Isn’t that true?

Kyle: You’re probably right. It was probably for the best.

Diane: [ Sighs ] I’m sure you’re wondering why i came forward now instead of years ago. And the answer is simple. I just wasn’t ready back then. When I moved to california and changed my name and tried to start my life over, I — I was still in a tailspin. I mean, it took a long, long time for me to hit bottom and realize that I just — i couldn’t go on the way I had been. So I — you know, I went to therapy, and I started down a long, lonely road of trying to rebuild myself. Of trying to become somebody worthy of being your mother. Gosh, it was a lot of hard work and — and owning up to my mistakes and trying to understand how I — how I ever became such a vindictive and — and spiteful person, how I took that beautiful life that we had in toronto, and then I just destroyed it completely. I’m ashamed of who I was, but I accept it now. And I have done everything in my power to change and to grow and to evolve as a human being, and I have vowed that I will never be that woman who caused so much chaos, who — who hurt you so badly. Kyle, I — I wouldn’t have reached out to you if I thought that I could still be some negative force in your life. And whether you believe me or not, it’s the truth.

Kyle: What is it you’re hoping will come from all this? I mean, what do you want from me? Are you looking for forgiveness so you can just move on? Or do you want a place in my life? ‘Cause I’m not sure I’m capable of giving you that.

Diane: I understand.

Kyle: Do you? ‘Cause I spent a long time coming to grips with losing you, finding peace, figuring out who I was without you to guide me. Now I can say I’m the happiest that I have ever been. Feels like life is finally coming into place. And the family I have built with summer and harrison is the most important thing to me, and i can’t — I won’t — risk bringing any turmoil into their world. I can’t sacrifice their happiness because I am messed up on account of you.

Diane: I get it. This is all — all new for you, and it is far too soon to even think about what the future might hold for us. But, kyle, to answer your question, yes, I am hoping that at some point, you can at least contemplate forgiveness.

Abby: It sounds like my dad was concerned about you, as well.

Chance: You two just want to make sure I’m okay and remind me of everything I have to be grateful for.

Abby: You know, every once in a while, my dad and I are on the same wavelength.

Chance: And it just throws you every time, huh?

Abby: [ Chuckles ] Something like that, yeah.

Chance: You know, this really does help, having people who care about me in my corner like this.

Victor: That boy has grown so big, I hardly recognize him, for heaven’s sake.

Abby: Amazing, isn’t it?

Victor: Yes, it’s stunning how they change at this age.

Chance: You enjoy those boxing stories?

Victor: Well…

Abby: What, boxing stories?

Chance: Don’t worry about it, don’t worry about it.

Victor: He’s a little too young for that.

Abby: [ Laughs ]

Victor: Anyway, I got to get going.

Abby: Well, dad, let me walk you out.

Victor: No, you stay here right with your husband, okay?

Chance: Thank you again for checking in, victor.

Victor: You’re welcome. Okay, I’ll see myself out.

Abby: Bye, dad, I love you.

Victor: Love seeing you. Bye.

Chance: Take care.

Victor: Alright, chance, be good, brother.

Chance: You too.

Kyle: Forgiveness. You’re asking for a lot.

Diane: I know. But I promised to be straightforward with you and to share what was in my heart. You’re overwhelmed. And now that you’ve been so gracious and have heard me out, I — I should probably go.

Kyle: Yeah, I have a lot to think about.

Diane: Well, could we meet again after you have?

Kyle: Maybe. Don’t think I can commit to anything right now.

Diane: Of course.

Phyllis: Yeah, I was.

Jack: I hear what you’re saying, I — I’m sorry, I thought diane would be gone by now. We will make ourselves scarce.

Diane: No worries. I was just leaving. Kyle…thank you for allowing me to see you and have this conversation with you. It means everything to me. Chance: I just want you to know that you don’t have to be scared or worried or feel like you have to check in on me every five seconds. Yes, I am still processing rey’s death, but I’m not gonna fall apart this time. I’m not. I’m not gonna get lost in all this sorrow. Yes, I’m gonna grieve his loss and I will miss my friend dearly…but it won’t be like before, I promise.

Abby: Are you sure that’s a promise that you can keep?

Chance: Abby, I am so much stronger now, and I will be present. I will be the husband and the father that you need me to be. I know how lucky I am to have both of you, I do. And trust me, I am not about to waste a minute that we have together by shutting down. I won’t do it. I’m gonna embrace each and every day by showing both of you how much I love you.

Kyle: Hey, um…where’s harrison?

Jack: Your aunt traci wanted some quality time with her grand-nephew, and I think she’s still entertaining him.

Phyllis: Yeah, she called us. It seems like he’s having a ball with her.

Kyle: Great, I’m sure we’ll hear all about it when he gets back.

Jack: I’m sure you’re pretty wiped out from your visit with your mom, but…if you don’t want to talk about it, I will not press for any details.

Kyle: I appreciate that. I promise, as soon as I’m recovered, I’ll fill you in on everything.

Jack: Fair enough.

Kyle: Right now, I — I need to get out of here, get some air.

Jack: Hey. If you need me, I am here.

Kyle: I know you will be, dad.

Diane: [ Gasps ]

Victor: We meet again.

Recap written by Christine

Diane saw no point in asking Victor how he got into her suite, because she knew that was how he was. She’d been expecting him. She assumed Nikki ran straight to him after her encounter with Diane. Actually, Diane thought Victor would’ve come faster. She suggested he was slowing down, but he said he was as fast as he’d always been. Victor implied that he wanted Diane to get out of town. She said threatening helpless women wasn’t really his style. “Or is that what you’ve become these days? A common thug?,” she asked. He said he’d never threaten a helpless creature of any kind, but he considered her venomous. He told her to pack her bag before people found out she was back. She thought that if she stuck around long enough, people would tolerate her. She said Phyllis was putting up with her, and she was staying in Phyllis’ hotel. Victor was sure Phyllis was allowing that because it let her keep an eye on Diane. Diane was sure Nikki informed Victor that Diane changed. Victor said it was bull – people didn’t change after a few therapy sessions. “So only Newmans are allowed to changed,” Diane replied. She stated that Nikki had become a pious poster child for sobriety and clean living, and Adam had become a family man. Victor stated that it took many years for his wife and son to evolve. Diane had zero expectations from anyone in this town, so she said Victor could keep his threats to himself. She was only here to explain things to her son and ask his forgiveness.

Victor stated that Kyle was a Newman now. Diane knew that Victor was saying that because her son married his granddaughter. Victor said that meant Kyle would be accorded the security of a Newman, and Victor had Kyle’s back. Diane said she reunited with Kyle – Jack arranged it. Victor thought Jack made a mistake. Diane didn’t think so. The conversation with Kyle went well. She said she wasn’t going to interfere and make Kyle upset. Victor said Diane was delusional if she thought she could bring people peace and happiness, especially Kyle. Diane said she meant no harm. Victor reiterated that Diane should get the hell out of town. “You know who I am and you know what I’m capable of. That’s far more than sneaking into your hotel suite,” Victor stated. He left.

Mariah ran into Kyle at Society. He was sitting at the bar, staring off into space, until she called his name and said she had no idea he was home from Milan. She hugged him and said they had so much to catch up on. Kyle missed Mariah. He claimed he was here on business. She asked where Snowflake was. He said Summer was wonderful, and she had to stay in Italy to oversee the new Marchetti launch. She asked how long he was here for. He wasn’t sure. She hoped it would take a long time, because she wanted him to be here for her wedding on May 13th. She said he was the first champion of her and Tessa’s love, and the wedding wouldn’t be the same without him.

Kyle promised to do everything in his power to be there for the wedding. He didn’t realize a date had been set. Mariah said it had come together quickly, which was why he hadn’t gotten a save the date email. She said there had been some complications. He assumed she meant Rey’s death. He was sorry. He talked to Lola, and she was devastated. He asked how Mariah was. She was in shock, and she missed Rey, but she was mostly concerned for Sharon. They wanted to put the wedding back, but Sharon wanted to keep it on schedule. Kyle understood needing a touchstone when your life turned upside down. Mariah alluded to wanting Kyle to be part of the wedding. He assumed she wanted him to be her man of honor, and he said yes. That wasn’t what she wanted. She asked him to officiate the wedding.

Kyle was honored, but he wasn’t sure if he could say yes. He was dealing with some personal things, and he couldn’t commit to such an important role. Mariah asked if he and Summer were having problems. He said they were great. She knew they hadn’t talked a lot lately, but she could always count on him, and she hoped he felt the same way about her. He did feel the same way. He asked if they could go talk at the house. He could use her friendship right now. They went to the Abbott mansion, where he revealed that his mom was alive and in town to make amends. Mariah was stunned, and she thought it was messed up for Diane to fake her death. Kyle said Diane had a lot of explanations, and he thought most of them were garbage, but some of them got to him. He wondered if it was possible for someone to change that much. Mariah didn’t know. She liked to think so. She was so sorry this was happening to Kyle. Mariah said even if Diane had explanations, that didn’t mean those were answers.

Mariah thought Diane was asking a lot by hoping for a mother-son relationship. Kyle agreed and said that was why he was drinking in the middle of the afternoon and didn’t know which way was up. Mariah asked what Kyle was going to do and how to support him. His instinct was to welcome his mom back into his life. There were so many things he missed out on as a kid. Mariah understood it must feel like a fairy tale and a second chance. Kyle said Mariah understood. Jack was nervous about this, but Kyle asked how he could turn down the opportunity for a new relationship. Kyle said it was kind of like when he found out he had a whole son he didn’t know about. Mariah noted that Harrison didn’t fake his death. Kyle knew and he also knew fairy tales weren’t real, but this was everything he wished for as a kid. Mariah was afraid Kyle was setting himself up to be hurt. She asked how he could trust Diane and why he’d let her anywhere near Summer and Harrison.

Back at her room, Diane called Jack and left a message. She said Kyle’s reaction wasn’t what she’d hoped for, but she guessed it was all she could expect right now. She did what she came to do, and she hoped there would be more in the future, but she guessed there would be no guarantees, so she was going back to Los Angeles tomorrow.

Sally and Adam were in their hotel suite. She wondered why sneaking away to a hotel in the middle of the day was so sexy. He said having a suite in Phyllis’s hotel without her knowing made it extra hot. She noted that they’d recently admitted to each other that they were falling in love. She asked if they were becoming a couple. He didn’t know. He wasn’t expecting any of this. They thought about how all their declarations that they were strictly professional didn’t work out. He teased that he’d sold it better than she did, but she didn’t agree. She said all her assurances to him, Chloe and Chelsea were legit because she didn’t want to ruin her chances at Newman Media. She said that what had been most important to her was not ruining her chances with what she really wanted – Adam.

Adam said he and Sally had to get back to work. Before they left, she wanted to know how it went with Sharon. He said it was hard. Sally didn’t want to pry. Adam said it was fine. He said Sharon was in a lot of pain, and Rey was a good man, so she was struggling. Adam was glad he went to Sharon. Sharon said he was the first one she broke down in front of. Adam sensed that Sally didn’t really want to hear this, but she assured him that she did. She wanted him to feel like he could tell her anything. She said openness was the basis of their relationship. That was why she told him about her terminal illness scam, and she hoped that was why he told her about his. She was here if she needed to talk. He thanked her.

Sally said she wasn’t jealous of Sharon or Chelsea. It might sound cocky, but she was pretty confident in their relationship. Adam said that was good to hear, and this was different for him. At various times, he’d been married and obsessed and destructive and detached but this thing with Sally was different – maybe because it began slowly. It felt right. She asked if he felt guilty because they were happy while Sharon was suffering and alone. He said seeing Sharon may have convinced him that he and Sally were taking things too slowly. It might be why he confessed he was falling in love with her. Life could change in an instant, so he didn’t think they should worry about what other people thought. She agreed and they kissed and fell back on the bed.

Billy and Victoria ran into each other at Crimson Lights. He was glad to see she was walking around. He asked if she was doing okay. She was doing well, all things considered. He brought up Rey’s tragic death, and she said she wished she’d never been on the road, because maybe things would’ve turned out differently. Billy told Victoria that it wasn’t her fault. He did wonder why she was on the road though, since that wasn’t her usual route home. He asked if Ashland had been following her.

Victoria didn’t want to recount the accident anymore. Billy felt like Victoria was trying to avoid him, since she broke down and told him about Ashland’s scam. He asked if she regretted having that talk with him. Smirking, she said she regretted most of her conversations with him. He hoped that wasn’t true. He liked being there for her, which was only fair after the amount of times she’d been there for him over the years. He hoped she knew she could confide in him. She did. He asked if Ashland was still in her life.

Victoria didn’t want to go into detail, but she said Ashland was leaving Newman Locke and they were having the marriage annulled. Billy was relieved. He hoped that meant Victoria finally believed the truth about Ashland and that he was leaving town. Victoria didn’t know. She hadn’t talked to him. He asked if she hadn’t talked to Ashland since the accident. She admitted they talked briefly. He wanted to know how briefly, and she said it was none of his concern. He knew she must be conflicted because Ashland saved her life, but Billy said that didn’t erase the lies. Victoria didn’t want to be psychoanalyzed. He apologized. She thought he was only doing this to say “I told you so.” She knew he warned her and Nick did too. She also knew she should’ve listened to them, but the past was the past, so all she could do was move forward. She got up to leave. Lily walked in and said she was sorry about the accident and hoped Victoria felt better. Victoria’s terse reply was that Lily could ask Billy about it since he seemed to know everything. Victoria left.

Lily asked what was going on. Billy thought Victoria was being sensitive. He swore he didn’t say anything bad to Victoria – he just showed concern for the mother of his children. He said he inadvertently hit a nerve when he brought up Ashland. Lily assumed Victoria didn’t think it was any of Billy’s business and that she didn’t want him looking for ways to blame Ashland. Billy said it was so easy because Ashland was a criminal. Billy thought this situation was going to affect Victoria’s judgment. Lily said Victoria was still the same smart savvy woman. He knew. Lily wondered if he was going to eventually decide that she couldn’t solve her own problems and interfere, whether she wanted him to or not.

Billy said this wasn’t a pattern with him. He never doubted Lily’s ability to solve issues, and he was aware the women in his life were smarter and more capable than him, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t concerned about Ashland. She knew he didn’t trust Ashland. He said it was past that – he had a deep hatred for Ashland – he lied about having cancer, which must strike a chord with Lily. Lily said it did, but she didn’t understand why that meant Billy had to interfere. Billy didn’t think he was doing that. He said he was advising Victoria, and she could choose to listen or not. “Victor is interfering. I’m not that bad,” he said. “Not yet,” she replied. He admitted he and Victor might end up on the same side – doing everything they could to get Ashland out of town. He said that Ashland was still here, despite getting kicked out of the company and having the marriage annulled – he’d been following Victoria the night of the accident. Billy thought Ashland was up to something, maybe plotting revenge.

Lily despised what Ashland did, especially as a cancer survivor. However, she said that she and Billy agreed that he’d let this go, because if he didn’t, he’d fixate on it. “I am asking you for the last time – please stop,” she said.

Billy went to The Grand Phoenix and ran into Ashland.

At Newman Media, Victor called Adam and asked where he was. Nikki came in and asked if Victor had seen Victoria. At that moment, Victoria walked in. Victoria had been avoiding the calls and messages because she didn’t want to be lectured about Ashland. Nikki said that this was about Rey, not Ashland. Victoria didn’t want to get into it. She thought it was clear that the accident was her fault. Nikki revealed that Rey died of a heart attack, that caused the accident. Victoria felt relief, and she felt terrible that this was her first reaction. Nikki thought it was natural to feel relief. Victoria said that this accident was still a tragedy, and it would take a little bit of time for her to put it behind her. Nikki understood that. She wished she could stay, but she had a meeting. Nikki left.

Victoria came to talk to Adam, and since he wasn’t here, she decided to leave. Victor said no, because they needed to have a talk about Adam’s position at Newman Locke. Victoria actually came to tell Adam that his services as CEO were no longer needed. Victor thought that was a mistake. Victoria said she was ready to go back to work. Victor admired that, but he said she had a lot on her plate. He wanted Adam to be co-CEO. He thought it was time for the Newmans to show a united front. Victoria didn’t want or need Adam in the mix. She was doing fine before Ashland came on board, and she’d be fine now. She said she was going to remove Locke’s name from the business and go back to Newman Enterprises. Victor liked that, however, he said they still had to discuss Adam’s role. Victoria said Adam had no role here, and if Victor forced the issue, he had to make a choice between her and Adam.

Victor got worked up because he thought Victoria was acting rashly. She said she knew how she felt. He said she found out Ashland lied, then she nearly got killed in a car accident – two traumas. He asked why she was being so stubborn and refusing Adam’s help. She said her injuries weren’t that severe. He wasn’t just talking about her physical pain. She said Ashland was out of her life. Victor knew Ashland snuck into Victoria’s office. He was sure aAshland would continue to play on Victoria’s emotions, and he wasn’t sure she’d purged herself of him. She got fed up with him second guessing her emotions. She said if he chose Adam, that was fine, but she’d leave and she wouldn’t look back. She headed toward the door. Adam came in and said it was good to see Victoria up and about. He asked what he missed. Victoria said their dad would fill him in. She left.

Victor told Adam they had a problem. Adam assumed Victoria had no interest in him staying on in a leadership role. Victor wanted to discuss that later, because they had an urgent matter to discuss – Diane Jenkins was alive and back in town.

Recap written by Christine

At Newman Media, Adam was angry that Victoria gave Nikki the co-CEO position that he thought should’ve gone to him. Sally asked if Victor backed Victoria up. While Victoria said that it was a unilateral decision, Adam knew Victor had to have signed off on it. Adam felt like Victor was playing another mind game and leaving Adam out in the cold. Sally noted that Victoria let Ashland get his hooks into the company, and now she was going back to business like she didn’t cause all this chaos. Adam didn’t know why he wasted his time hoping his family would give him a chance. Sally said Adam didn’t need any of them. She suggested he cut ties with the Newmans and strike out on his own.

Adam said he’d done that more than once, and he wasn’t sure he wanted to do so again. He said that Victor had a blind acceptance of Victoria’s leadership, no matter how often she screwed up. He felt like if he walked away, he’d be letting Victoria win. Sally asked if that would be the worst thing. Adam said Victoria refused to acknowledge that he saved her by getting Locke out of the way. He didn’t see why he should give her what she wanted by quitting. Sally said Adam had done way too much to prove himself to his family, and it was never enough. He sarcastically thanked her for rubbing it in. Her point was that he shouldn’t stick around if the Newmans weren’t going to show him the respect he deserved. He asked if he’d really be okay with him quitting his job and leaving her here to deal with her family.

Sally hated hypotheticals. Adam still wanted an answer. Sally said she’d keep her job if he quit, and she’d try to win over his family. He asked why. She said she loved her job, and she had faith they’d be successful wherever they chose to be. She asked if he knew how rare it was to find someone who thought the way you did, who wanted what you want and made you laugh. She asked if he ever met anyone like that. He said yes – once. She smiled. For the first time, Sally felt like she was meeting someone on their level. She said she didn’t need him to be the good or bad version of himself, or what everyone else expected of him. She just wanted him – all of him. He said knowing she was willing to brave his family should make the decision to walk away easier, but it felt different this time. He was older and wiser, and he knew someone had his back. He felt like if he walked away, he’d be giving up. He suggested he might also be falling for his dad’s games and looking for his approval. He wasn’t sure if he could ignore the challenge Victoria threw down by hiring Nikki over him. Sally said if Adam chose to fight, she’d still be here, and if he walked away, she’d stand by him. He took her hand. He said the only thing he had to consider was what was best for himself. She said she’d continue to tell him he deserved better. She kissed him.

Diane had a nightmare that Jack and Kyle had her arrested for child abandonment. Jack accused Diane of leaving Kyle because she didn’t have the patience to raise him. Diane argued that she was a good person now. Jack said she turned her back on Kyle. Diane swore she walked away because it was what was best for Kyle. Diane struggled in the grip of the police officer and begged Kyle for a second chance. The cop told Diane that letting her son think she was dead was as low as it could get. He read her her rights. Kyle snarled that Diane was a liar. Diane begged and pleaded as she was dragged away. She woke up and grabbed her phone.

At the Abbott house, Jack said to Kyle that it wasn’t easy to raise your son to have opinions of his own, then watch him grow up and make decisions that made you a little nervous. Kyle smiled. He knew Harrison would get there, and he was already dreading it. Later, Kyle took one of Harrison’s cookies, and Jack teased him. Kyle said he wouldn’t tell, then he said didn’t want to keep things from his son. He liked to think he didn’t inherit his mother’s bad habits. Every time Kyle closed his eyes, he thought about the awful things Diane did. Kyle said the last time he saw Diane, as a child, before she’d changed his name and sent him away, she promised she was going to join him. Instead, she chose to vanish and let him think she died. Jack asked if Diane shared her reasoning. Kyle said her reasons sounded plausible and rehearsed, like she’d been waiting a long time to say them to him. Kyle wanted to know how Jack felt about this.

Jack had promised himself he wouldn’t interfere and try to influence Kyle. Kyle appreciated that Jack put his own feelings aside, but now Kyle needed to figure out whether he thought Diane really changed into a good person, or if the child in him just wished it was true. Kyle noted that Harrison said dads have all the answers. Jack told Kyle to cherish that. Jack had been puzzling over the same questions Kyle was asking himself. Jack said he’d asked for the benefit of the doubt more times than he could count. He’d tried to put himself in Diane’s shoes and asked himself why he’d leave his child. Kyle said Diane’s original plan, which she’d worked out with Adam, was to fake her own death and take Kyle with her. Jack said Diane claimed she changed her mind because she didn’t want Kyle to grow up living on the run. Jack said Diane knew he would never give up looking for her and Kyle. Kyle thought Diane should’ve come to him and told him that. Jack wasn’t sure Kyle would’ve understood, since he’d been so young. Jack asked if Kyle thought it would’ve been any easier to know that Diane was out there somewhere without him. Jack thought that if Kyle knew all along that Diane was alive and on the run, he would’ve spent his life asking questions, and he would’ve grown into a completely different person. Jack loved the person Kyle became. Jack said maybe, this one time, Diane made the right choice in leaving the way she did.

Jack didn’t condone any of the other things Diane did and he offered up no opinions on her as a person. He said she hurt a lot of people in a lot of ways. Jack wasn’t sure he’d have ever seen Kyle again, if Diane had stuck to her original plan and taken him with her. Jack couldn’t help thinking about his own mother. He’d been so angry at her for leaving him behind. When she returned, he’d wanted to slam the door in her face. It was a miracle that they reconciled, and he found forgiveness and understanding, and it was one of the greatest gifts of his life. Jack wanted that for Kyle. Jack wasn’t saying Diane changed, but he believed the decision to leave Kyle was the toughest one she ever made in her life. He knew that wasn’t the simple answer Kyle wanted from him, but there was nothing simple about this. Kyle said it would be cool if they could run a simulation of what a future with his mother would look like. Jack asked how they’d do that. Kyle said they’d put Diane through the full Abbott test.

Diane got a text from Kyle inviting her over to the house.

Billy met Lily at Society. She heard his podcast, which was called the Grinning Soul. He asked if he was in the doghouse. She said she was concerned. He said the numbers for the podcast were good, and he’d altered his voice and kept the names and locations anonymous. Lily said people close to the situation would know the podcast was about Ashland. “If the sociopathic shoe fits,” Billy replied.

Billy said the point of the podcast was to give him an outlet to discuss the things he shouldn’t publicly comment on. Lily wasn’t sold on the idea of two Billys being better than one. He said Billy 1 was her right hand man, while Billy 2 was an untamed rebel. Lily loved the idea of an anonymous podcast, but she noted that he had a confrontation with Ashland, then he immediately talked about it on his podcast. She was sure anyone could connect the dots. He was sure the average listener wouldn’t figure out that it was Ashland. Lily liked the message the podcast sent, but she told Billy not to be surprised if people, like Victoria, figured out he was the Grinning Soul.

Billy reminded Lily that she requested they not talk about Victoria. Lily asked how Victoria would look if people figured out the stories were about her. Billy thought people would see her as sympathetic – a loving partner deceived by the most heinous of men. He hoped Victoria would appreciate the fact that he wasn’t personally getting involved in her problems. Lily asked what if Ashland figured out Billy was behind the podcast. Billy hoped Ashland did figure it out. Billy wished he could see the look on Ashland’s face when he realized he was the monster under the bed and that everyone was recoiling at lies he perpetrated his entire life. Billy said Ashland needed to know actions had consequences.

Lily was angry that Ashland profited from lying about cancer, but she didn’t like the idea of Billy possibly losing his platform because he wasn’t being careful about how he was disseminating this information. He didn’t think the podcast would be a blip on Victoria’s radar, since she had other things on her mind. Jack called Billy and summoned him to the Abbott house. Billy suggested he was in the middle of something. Jack said nothing was more important than supporting Kyle. Traci, Ashley and Abby were already on their way. Billy said he’d be there as soon as he could. Billy told Lily about the family meeting. She reminded him that there was a Chancellor-Winters meeting. He asked if he could get a pass on it, but she said she needed her COO. He said he’d just meet his family later, since Lily and Chancellor-Winters were his top priority.

Adam and Sally rented a hotel suite and were headed upstairs when Adam saw Diane. He welcomed her to the resurrection club. She expected him to be more shocked to see her. He said that his father let him know. He noted that she’d left town in a way that implicated him in her death. He’d wanted to send her a Bite Me card, but he didn’t know the address to Hell. She said she regretted many things about that time. He asked how she could look at herself in the mirror. At the time, she’d justified her actions by telling herself that Adam was very resourceful, though she knew that wasn’t an excuse. He said half the people in the town wanted her dead back then, so it was impressive when they all thought she died. He said the rule of resurrection club was not to come back once you escaped. Sally silently took in all this information, with an intrigued look.

Sally walked up and introduced herself as Adam’s coworker. Diane assumed things had progressed beyond that since Adam and Sally were headed upstairs. Adam said Diane had nerve – coming to town and staying in Phyllis’s hotel. Diane said he was here for Kyle, not to cause trouble. Adam noted that he and Diane made a plan for her to start a new life with Kyle, but instead, she’d abandoned her son. Diane didn’t try to justify what she did. She wasn’t proud of her past actions, and she thought Adam could understand that. He said she wasn’t above taking potshots and her former co-conspirator. Diane wasn’t doing that – she’d kept up with things in Genoa City, and she knew he’d worked hard t turn over a new leaf. She just wanted what everyone gave him – a second chance. He hoped that was true. He didn’t have the same kind of beef with her that everyone else did. He wished her luck. She left.

Sally and Adam went upstairs to their room and kissed and disrobed. Later, they cuddled in bed, and he asked how she was so perfect. He didn’t mean her beautiful face or her body. He said that she didn’t bombard him with questions about Diane. She said she knew he’d tell her when the time was right. He asked if she was ready. She was more than ready – she’d been dying to know more from the moment she heard about Diane. He said Diane was driven and obsessed, and she’d stop at nothing to get what she wanted, but not in a good way, like Sally. He said he and Diane worked together to make it look like Victor was dead to drive down the price of Newman stock, and they made a sizable profit. He agreed to help her evade Jack and start a new life with her son. He did a lot of things he wasn’t proud of, but he thought that scheme was semi-noble. He was a wrok in progress. He was glad Sally was in his corner – it was nice being with someone who was meeitng him on his level. She asked what he was going to do about his family’s latest move. He wasn’t sure. She said she’d take this ride with him. They kissed.

Traci, Ashley and Abby arrived at the Abbott house. Kyle and Jack explained that Diane was on her way. Ashley couldn’t believe Diane would have the nerve to come to town, let alone to this house. Kyle said she’d already been here. It wasn’t his first time seeing his mother. Ashley vowed to make sure this was his last time seeing Diane. Abby never would’ve come if she’d known Diane was coming. That was why Jack didn’t tell her. Kyle explained that Diane claimed she changed and she wanted forgiveness. Ashley hoped Kyle knew that Diane was lying. Abby asked how Kyle felt about this. Ashley was sure Diane just wanted to use Kyle. Kyle wasn’t sure what to think. Abby suggested that Diane wanted to do the right thing. Jack said Diane had made a compelling case for herself. Ashley scoffed. Jack shared Ashley’s skepticism, but he noted that he and his sisters knew what it was like to be estranged from their mother. Ashley ordered Jack not to go there. “I know our mother was a piece of work but she’s nothing compared to Diane,” Ashley argued. Traci stepped in to keep the peace and apologized to Kyle. Abby said they all wanted to support Kyle, no matter what he chose. Ashley apologized and asked how Kyle was feeling. He didn’t know if Diane was lying, and that was why he called all of them here. It was one thing for Diane to feed Kyle a bunch of rehearsed lines, but it was another to have to face him and his family. Kyle wanted to see how Diane handled herself with the people who’d seen her at her worst and see if she’d sincerely changed.

Diane was running late, and Ashley hoped that meant she’d gotten kicked out of town. Jack told Ashley to be nice. Kyle added that he didn’t want them to bombard Diane with old grievances, because that wasn’t going to get them anywhere. Abby loathed Diane too, but she said athey were here to help Kyle discover the truth. Ashley said they’d help Kyle when he realized his mother was heartless. Ashley said Diane’s soul was a deep dark abyss, and she didn’t believe Diane transformed.

Diane arrived, and she was startled when she saw everyone waiting for her. “Welcome back, bitch” Ashley said. Diane took it in stride. Traci greeted Diane in a more neutral way. Kyle said that if he was going to let Diane back in his life, it was going to affect his entire family. Diane had no desire to cause any problems with the Abbotts. Kyle said that her presence affected all of them, and they’d have to decide whether they thought she was a different person now.

Recap written by Christine

Noah joined Mariah on the Crimson Lights patio. Mariah asked about Sharon. He said that she wasn’t eating much, but when he left, Nick had come by to make her breakfast. According to Noah, Faith said she could hear Sharon pacing around the house last night. Mariah said that if anyone could get Sharon to eat it was Nick. Mariah was working on a playlist for the wedding, and it was hard to narrow it down. Noah suggested asking Sharon to help, since she could use the distraction. Mariah doubted that would work, but she said she’d think about it. Tessa came in with good news – her sister Crystal could come to the wedding. Mariah was confused because Tessa helped Crystal flee to Canada. Tessa said all the charges against Crystal were dropped, and Zack’s last known associate from the sex trafficking ring was arrested. Crystal could come and go as she pleased now. Tessa said not only was Crystal safe, the way it happened was even more amazing.

Sharon came downstairs in sweats and found Nick in her living room. He offered her breakfast. She wasn’t hungry, but he told her he already started making his famous chocolate chip pancakes, and he knew she couldn’t resist. She smiled sadly. Later, Nick gently called Sharon out on barely eating her food, instead just moving it around on her plate. She told him he didn’t have to treat her like one of his kids. Noah, Mariah and Tessa showed up. Tessa shared that Crystal could be the maid of honor at the wedding. Tessa said it was a miracle, because Rey was instrumental in making this happen. Tessa explained that, according to Crystal, Rey found her case in the cold case files, and he went to Michael and convinced him that there wasn’t enough evidence to convict her. Michael went to the DA and got him to drop the charges. Sharon said that was amazing, but she asked what about the dangerous group that was after Crystal. Tessa said Rey tracked down the last of that group and arrested him, so Crystal was safe. Sharon was moved. She had no idea Rey had been working the case. Tessa wondered if he wanted it to be a surprise. Nick suggested that Rey didn’t say anything because he didn’t want to get everyone’s hopes up. Sharon said even now, Rey was here protecting them. She thought his last gesture proved even more profoundly what an amazing man he was.

Sharon wanted to hold a small memorial service to Rey, but she’d need all their help to do it. She wanted to do it before she accompanied Rey to Miami. Mariah noted that that was tomorrow. Sharon knew, so she wanted to do it today. She thought Rey’s family in Genoa City should pay tribute to him before she brought him to his other home. She got choked up, and Nick said that they’d absolutely help.

Inside Crimson Lights, Ashland approached Victoria and asked if it was okay to ask how she was doing. She said she was stronger every day – the human capacity to recover was astounding. He knew he was one of many things she was recovering from. He said her fortitude was a large part of what made him fall in love with her. He was just sorry he was the reason she had to rely on it so much now. She looked at his bandaged hand, and he told her not to worry – he was recovering quite nicely. She sniped that he had a knack for miraculous recoveries. She wondered why he was still in town. She hoped he wasn’t under the delusion that she was going to forgive him. He said it was hard for him to let go of that, almost as hard as pretending he didn’t love her.

Victoria was sure Ashland would find a way to let go, since he was the master of reinvention, and he had the means to do so, thanks to her father’s money. He didn’t have the will or strength to reinvent himself again. She told him to stop making this so hard on them both. She said that if he really loved her, he should take his blood money and leave town. She hurried toward the door, where she ran into Adam, who apparently wanted to talk about the co-CEO position. She said there was nothing to discuss. She was appointing her mother. He wanted to have a conversation, and she said it would be a waste of time. He wondered what their dad would have to say. She said it didn’t matter, since this was her decision. She left. Ashland watched the whole interaction from a distance.

Ashland said that he and Adam looked pathetic, like a couple of lapdogs hoping Victoria would give them what they deserved. Adam didn’t know what Ashland was talking about. Ashland assumed Adam still thought he should be co-CEO of Newman Locke, or temporary CEO, or whatever fake title he was trying to grovel for. Adam said that the Locke name had been jettisoned from the company, and it was all Newman now. Ashland knew Victoria well enough to know she wouldn’t let Adam retain any title or power in her company. Adam said that Victoria hired Nikki. Adam guessed he and Ashland both got screwed, but he added that he was still head of the newly expanded Newman Media, while Ashland just had Victor’s money to keep him warm.Ashland stood by his original comparison – Victoria rejected them both. Adam didn’t want to be compared to Ashland. He said Ashland broke Victoria’s spirit. Ashland said he signed a deal Adam presented behind Victoria’s back. Adam said Ashland was never going to cleanse his actions in Victoria’s heart, so he should give up trying. Adam left. Ashland texted Nick asking to meet.

Back at the cottage, Nick told everyone about his text from Ashland. Nick had no interest in meeting Ashland. He wanted to stay and plan the memorial. Sharon thought Nick should go and find out what Ashland wanted. She appreciated him being there for her this morning, and she assured him she’d be fine, since she had the kids with her. He replied and set up a meeting at Society. he left. Sharon booked the church. She didn’t want anything formal or sad. She wanted the service to be quietly joyful, like Rey. She asked Tessa to sing one of Rey’s favorite songs, and she said yes. Noah was going to make a slide show. Sharon wasn’t sure she was ready to make a speech. She wondered if that was terrible. Mariah and Noah assured her it was fine. Noah went to a memorial service that set aside a time for quiet contemplation, and anyone who felt compelled to speak could. Sharon said Rey would really love that idea. She felt lucky and blessed to have such a strong, supportive and talented family.

Tessa and Mariah were back at Crimson Lights. they couldn’t believe Rey was gone and that they were moving forward with the wedding while they were still so devastated. Tessa was grateful they could be there for Sharon. Sharon had said the memorial was part of her process of letting go.

Sharon was home alone. She went to the wedding photo and told Rey she missed him so much and felt his spirit in every room. When she came home, she expected him to be there, and when she heard a noise, she thought it was him, then she’d remember that he was gone. His coffee cup was still sitting by the sink, where he left it. She couldn’t bring herself to put it away. She hoped he didn’t suffer, and she hoped he knew how loved he’d always be. She knew his spirit would always be with her. She could just see him smiling at her. She said he’d been disinterested in her obsession with finding the perfect wedding gift, because he already had something in the works. Smiling through tears, she said she should be mad at him for keeping that secret, but she could never be mad at him again. She remembered the pep talks he used to give her when she was sick. She wasn’t sure how she’d manage without her precious husband, but she resolved to find a way.

Victoria went to work and stopped short when she saw a new portrait of herself hanging on the wall. Nikki entered and said Victor had it commissioned and put a rush on it. Her parents understood why she destroyed the one Locke commissioned, but they thought it needed to be replaced. Nikki said Ashland may have broken Victoria’s heart, but he didn’t destroy her spirit or strength of leadership. Victoria appreciated the gift, but she was surprised Victor did that for her after he’d been determined to shove Adam down her throat as co-CEO, basically saying he’d lost confidence in her. Nikki said that wasn’t true. Victor accepted that Nikki would take the position, though the was disappointed there was antagonism between Adam and Victoria. Victoria was surprised that Victor wasn’t going to fight her on this. Nikki said Victoria had been through a lot, and Victor wanting to bring in a co-CEO had nothing to do with a lack of confidence – he just wanted her to have the time and space to deal with everything that happened.

Chelsea met Chloe at Crimson Lights. Chelsea was late. She didn’t sleep well last night. Chloe thought it was clear that Rey’s death was hitting Chelsea harder than she wanted to admit. Chelsea said of course it was affecting her – Rey was one of her best friends. Chloe understood, but she said Chelsea had to pull herself together for herself and for Connor. Chelsea said Connor still felt guilty, even though they told him that Rey’s heart attack would’ve happened no matter what. Chelsea thought Connor was too young to understand. Chloe asked how this was affecting Connor’s behavior. Chelsea said Connor quit hockey. She thought he felt like he didn’t deserve to enjoy it anymore. Chloe was sympathetic. Chelsea asked Noah to take Connor to play at the rink. She wanted Connor to understand that Rey would want him to play. Chloe asked how Chelsea was dealing with her own guilt. Chloe knew Chelsea and Rey were friends, but Chelsea’s reaction went much deeper than that.

Chelsea got defensive and said she and Rey were just friends, so of course it was affecting her deeply. She asked if Chloe was saying she was wrong to feel that way. Chloe wasn’t judging; she just didn’t realize Chelsea and Rey were that close. Chelsea said Rey was supportive when he should’ve hated her – he accompanied her and Connor to visit her mom, and when they got back, he’d seek her out just to check on her. Rey and Chelsea had deep conversations, and he encouraged and inspired her. He bonded with Connor and convinced her she could turn her life around. He told her she was a god mom even after the terrible things she did. He gave her hope she’d be accepted again. That car crash and heart attack ripped that hope away. Chloe knew Chelsea well, and she suspected Chelsea was falling in love with Rey. Chelsea vehemently denied it. She said Rey was happily married to Sharon, and it was his loyalty that made him trustworthy and such a great friend. Chloe was talking about feelings, not actions – she wasn’t accusing Chelsea of doing anything. Chelsea put a stop to the conversation, and they began to talk business.

Ashland arrived at Society. “Look at him. Alive and well wile a good man like Rey is gone,” Chelsea griped to Chloe. Chloe said that Rey’s death wasn’t Ashland and Victoria’s fault. Chelsea wondered if Ashland went back to help Rey. The news made Ashland sound like a hero for rescuing Victoria, but did even try to help Rey, or give him CPR? Maybe Rey could’ve been saved. Chloe told Chelsea to stop fixating on that night. Chelsea got even more tense because she thought Chloe was accusing her of being obsessed. Chloe said to relax – she wasn’t diagnosing Chelsea, but she thought Chelsea was close to going over the edge. Chloe thought Chelsea’s feelings were natural, but Chloe was trying to interrupt this unhealthy cycle before it went further. Chelsea admitted that Chloe was right. Chelsea decided to go home and sleep before they met with Lauren later.

Nick went to Society and met Ashland at the bar. Ashland appreciated Nick coming. Nick was there to find out if he needed to protect his sister or the rest of his family from Ashland. Nick said he’d prefer Ashland coming to him from now on instead of upsetting Victoria more than he already had. Ashland said he had something of great importance and benefit to offer Nick, no strings attached. Ashland wanted to donate half the money he received from Victor to New Hope. Ashland said Nick could use it for whatever the community needed. Nick found it hard to believe Ashland was offering him two hundred and fifty million dollars no strings attached. He said Ashland could go straight to hell. Ashland asked if Nick was so proud and stubborn that he’d turn his back on a quarter of a billion dollars. Ashland’s one caveat was that all the work be done in Rey’s name. Ashland was ready to transfer the money to New Hope right now. Nick said he didn’t respond well to bribery, and he didn’t like dealing with people like him. Nick said Ashland was looking for redemption, and the payoff wasn’t worth the risk. Ashland asked if Nick was going to prioritize his hatred of Ashland over the needs of his own organization. Nick thought Ashland was pulling a clever move – Ashland knew that if Nick turned the money down, the community would miss out, but if he accepted it, he’d be complicit in Ashland’s attempt to absolve himself. Ashland said to think about it. Nick left.

Nick went to Newman Enterprises and told Victoria and Nikki about Ashland’s offer. Nikki was appalled that Ashland was trying to take advantage of Rey’s death to clear his name. Nick was going to turn Ashland down and make it clear that he couldn’t buy his way back into everyone’s good graces. Victoria thought that Nick should take the money. Nick was concerned Victoria was falling for this ploy. Victoria said Ashland was never going to be able to buy back her forgiveness, but she thought that they should put the money to good. Nick said they couldn’t use dirty money. Victoria thought it was worth it to use the money to do good in Rey’s name.

Recap written by Christine

At Newman Media, Adam was surprised to hear Diane was alive. He asked how she pulled this off and why she was back. Victor said Diane claimed she wanted to reunite with Kyle, but he didn’t know her true motives. Sally walked in and wanted to know what was going on. Adam told her that Kyle’s mother was actually alive. Sally asked if this was this Jack’s ex wife. Adam said it never got that far, but Diane married Victor, and she dated Nick. Victor put a stop to the history lesson. He said Diane was dangerous, and he told Adam to stay away from her, lest she try and use their connection to wrangle something out of him. Sally was curious about Adam and Diane’s connection. He said they didn’t really have one. Adam assured his father he had no interest in Diane. He shifted gears and asked about Victor and Victoria’s conversation. Victor said Victoria wasn’t very fond of Adam.

Adam didn’t know why Victoria saw him as a threat. Victor said that Adam bore some responsibility for that. Victor acknowledged that Adam’s brilliant idea to pay Ashland bought them some time, but Adam went behind Victoria’s back to do it. Sally said that if Adam had consulted to Victoria, she would’ve shot down his idea. Victor thought that was probably true. Adam thought the important thing was that they all worked together to neutralize Ashland. Victor said he encouraged Victoria to make Adam co-CEO, but she said she’d rather resign. Adam and Sally shared a look.

Sally suggested calling Victoria’s bluff. Sally found it hard to believe Victoria would give up on her dream job just because she had to share it with her smart capable brother. “Have you met my sister?,” Adam replied. Victor said the last thing they needed was a public conflict over control of the company. Adam asked if that meant there was no chance for him to advance and if all the ideas he had for the company were just going to die. Victor said Adam had to show Victoria that he was loyal to her and convince her that he had good ideas.

After Victor left, Adam admitted he’d been kind of thrown by the Diane thing. Sally noted that, like Diane, Adam also used to be dead. Adam said there were quite a few similarities between Diane and the man he used to be. Sally was eager to hear more, but Adam said they’d talk about it another time. He wanted to talk about Victoria. He’d miscalculated; he thought Victor was going to be ready to throw Victoria in the penalty box for the mess she created with Ashland. Sally thought it made sense that Victor was protective of Victoria, considering he almost lost her in the car accident. Sally said the bright side was that Victor had Adam’s back and was championing him to Victoria. She said he just had to win Victoria over. He said Victoria was stubborn – it was a Newman trait. She said he was charming and persuasive, so those must be Newman traits too.

At The Grand Phoenix, Billy assumed Ashland was staying at the hotel because Victoria threw him out. Ashland sarcastically praised Billy’s power of deduction. Billy asked why Ashland was still in town. Ashland had his reasons, which were none of Billy’s business. Billy told Ashland to stay the hell away from Victoria. Ashland said it was abundantly clear that Billy was still in love with Victoria. Ashland wondered if Lily had noticed and if she resented the fact that Billy kept barging in to protect his ex. Billy said he and Lily were fine, and he wasn’t worried about Victoria’s ability to deal with Ashland. Billy warned Ashland that he was playing with fire. Ashland stated that Victoria was not nearly as angry with him as Billy thought. Billy asked what about Victor – the one who stood there and watched Ashland gasp for air as he was having a heart attack, and that was before Ashland admitted to tricking Victoria. Billy said Ashland was on the top of Victor’s hit list, and that was not a fun place to be.

Billy went home and recorded his anonymous podcast about a run in he had today with a greedy, manipulative business mogul. Billy said it was like this guy didn’t trust his own business acumen, so he had to lie and deceive to get the upper hand. This person might get away with what they did. Billy said that if wealth and power gave a person blanket immunity, it was an indictment on them all.

At the Abbott house, Jack saw Diane’s voicemail but didn’t listen to it. Kyle came downstairs and said Harrison was playing with his new BFF Traci. Kyle appreciated Jack and Phyllis spending time with Harrison while Kyle was getting his bearings. Jack said it was their pleasure. Kyle wasn’t sure what to do about his mom. Jack stated that Diane took years to contemplate things before she sprung all this on Kyle, so Kyle should take all the time he needed. Jack offered to be a sounding board. Kyle wanted to take Jack up on that in the future, but he’d already spent a lot of time talking to Traci and Mariah today. Kyle had a lot of questions, and there was only one person who could answer them. Jack offered to go with Kyle, but Kyle thought Diane would be more forthcoming if they talked one on one. Jack agreed, and Kyle left. Ashland called Jack and asked if they could meet.

Kyle went to Diane’s suite. He saw she was packing up. She said she was leaving to give him space, unless he had a change of heart. He was just there to get some answers. He asked how he could know she really changed. Diane didn’t expect Kyle to trust or believe her. She said she deceived him when he was growing up, because she wanted him to see the kind and loving version of herself. He said it worked, because he’d thought she was the best mom ever. She’d been so angry with Phyllis when he read that expose she wrote about Diane’s exploits. Kyle had never been able to reconcile what he read with the version of Diane that he knew. He said she blackmailed people, committed arson and destroyed relationships and never seemed to care. She said he’d seen both sides of her now. She told him to ask her anything.

Kyle asked what kind of work Diane did on herself. She said she found a psychologist who called her out on her crap and forced her to look at herself. He asked how it went. She admitted she’d been offended and indignant for the first year of sessions, but deep down, she knew what the psychologist was saying she was true. Diane had to admit she wasn’t a victim, she was a narcissist. She realized that none of the things she was so desperate to get – money, attention, affection and power ever came to her. Her behavior left her broke, invisible and alone. Worst of all, it cost her the one pure unselfish joy she’d ever known – her life with her beautiful son. The realization was crushing, but it was the first step on the road that brought her back to him, asking for forgiveness. He appreciated what she was saying, but he asked what would happen if all the work she did didn’t get her what she wanted.

Diane said nothing would happen if Kyle turned her down – she’d leave him alone. He was skeptical. She said he mattered to her more than anything, and she’d learned the hard way that she shouldn’t try and force people to give her something she didn’t deserve. She said he didn’t owe her a thing. She’d love it if he forgave her and gave her a place in his life. She’d also try and make up for the hurt and damage she caused. He wasn’t sure if that was possible. He said it wasn’t that he didn’t want what she wanted – she was his mom and she loved him. He was wondering if the version of her he remembered was real or if it was just an act she put on because she needed the admiration of someone who was too young to know better. She said her love for him was never an act. He thought he was willing to leave the door open and give her a chance to prove she was who she said she was. “Please don’t go back to LA,” he asked. Diane was moved. She went to hug Kyle, then she thought better of it and pulled back.

Jack and Ashland met at Society. Jack said he was in the middle of a family emergency, so he couldn’t stay long. He assumed this was about Harrison. Ashland guessed that Jack hadn’t spoken to his brother and heard the news. Concerned, Jack asked if this was about Ashland’s health – had he taken a turn for the worse? Ashland cryptically said that he’d done some reprehensible things that came back to bite him, and deservedly so. He wanted to shield Harrison from the fallout. Jack asked Ashland to stop dancing around the subject and just say what he did.

Jack was stunned when Ashland said he lied to everyone and he never had cancer. Ashland was disgusted with himself for his cruelty. Jack didn’t care how Ashland felt – he was concerned about Victoria. Jack lived through the death of a spouse, and he had some idea of the anguish Victoria had been preparing for, just to find out it was a hoax. Ashland began to explain that he genuinely fell in love with Victoria. Jack didn’t want to hear it and he was sure Victoria didn’t either. Ashland said he agreed to annul the marriage and leave the company. Jack hoped Ashland was going back to NY and would leave Victoria alone forever. Ashland didn’t want to leave town without seeing Harrison, and he was worried about how Kyle and Summer would take the news. “You damn well should be,” Jack replied.

Ashland admitted his behavior had been abhorrent, but he said he was a good father. Jack countered that Ashland lied to Harrison about being sick. Ashland stated that there were two people in this world that he loved – Victoria and Harrison. He knew his wife might not forgive him, but he couldn’t lose his son. He said he’d do whatever it took to keep that boy in his life. Jack wondered why Ashland thought Jack would help him. Ashland said he and Jack were at an age where they’d seen a lot of life, and they knew people were complex, not black and white. Jack had heard enough of this sick and twisted reasoning lately, and he was done. Ashland decided he’d talk to Kyle himself. Jack warned him that this was not a good time to go to Kyle seeking forgiveness. He left.

Kyle went back to the Abbott house and told Jack he was still conflicted about Diane, but he was going to give her a chance to prove himself to her. Jack’s eyes widened.

Victoria summoned Nikki to the office to talk about Victor. She said Victor suggested Adam take Ashland’s position as co-CEO. Victor framed it as a response to Victoria’s supposedly fragile emotional state, which infuriated her. Sighing, Nikki said sometimes Victor wasn’t the most tactful. Victoria felt insulted. Nikki understood that, but she suggested Victoria’s anger should be directed at Ashland. Victoria said Ashland wasn’t a threat anymore, but Adam was. Nikki said Adam was a big reason Ashland was no longer a threat. Victoria said Adam used a half a billion dollars of Victor’s money to make it happen, and that didn’t entitle him to be co-CEO. Nikki wanted the family unit to remain strong. Victoria said she’d quit if Victor made Adam co-CEO.

Victoria said her brother was a snake who’d been looking for ways to undermine her ever since he agreed to come work for her. Appointing him co-CEO would make things worse. Nikki said Victor saw things differently. Victoria replied that Victor always had a soft spot, or a blind spot, for Adam. Nikki admitted Adam had been successful running Newman Media and had proven he could be a reliable family member. Victoria asked if Nikki was arguing that Adam should be co-CEO. Nikki said no, she was just stating facts. Victoria thought Victor would be satisfied if she hired a co-CEO who he could agree was better than Adam. Nikki didn’t think Victoria would be able to find anyone who fit that bill. “I’m looking at her,” Victoria replied.

Nikki didn’t know how to respond to the offer. Victoria hoped she’d accept, since she was the only one Victoria trusted to be her co-CEO. Nikki didn’t like the idea of being a pawn in Victoria’s game with her father. Victoria said Victor would have to agree Nikki was the most qualified and experienced candidate, since she’d been Victoria’s COO from the very beginning, and she was family. Victoria told Nikki to envision herself as co-CEO. Victoria was sure Nikki would be brilliant. Victoria added that Nikki could lighten Victoria’s workload, since Nikki always said Victoria worked too hard. Nikki was happy to take some of the work off Victoria’s plate, but she got the feeling this would be a promotion in name only, just to fend off Adam. Victoria said this was a sincere offer, and they’d have so much fun if they were partners. Nikki thought they had to think of the possible repercussions. Victoria was sure that there were no downsides. Nikki said Adam wouldn’t be happy, since he thought he deserved more responsibility and Victor agreed.

Nikki asked if they really wanted to create more family drama just as the news about Ashland was going to break. Victoria wasn’t going to let Adam’s possible potential hurt feelings dictate her decision. She hoped they could keep the reasons for Ashland’s departure from becoming public knowledge. Nikki was convinced it was going to come out very soon. She thought they should prepare for that by presenting a united front to the world. Victoria said if she caved in to Adam, he’d continually try to sabotage her, she’d have to play defense and the family would have to choose sides, and it would end in warfare and an absolute disaster for the family and the business.

After Nikki left, Adam went to Victoria’s office and asked to talk. He said he was surprised that Victor asked her to promote him as co-CEO. He said if he’d known he would’ve asked Victor to hold off until Adam and Victoria had a conversation. He wanted to convince her that he could make a good partner. She asked if he was going to offer him 500,000,000 of someone else’s money in exchange for a promotion. He said that the company had almost doubled since the acquisition of Ashland’s business holdings, and she was going to need help. He knew they’d never been close, and that she didn’t trust him. He said no matter how much he tried to support her, there was too much history in the way. He asked what he could do to change that and show her that working together could be a positive thing.

Victoria said it didn’t matter how Victor pitched her the idea of promoting Adam, because she was never going to agree to it. She agreed that her workload was going to increase now that Ashland was out of the picture. Adam said he didn’t need a title – he’d happily pitch in so she could see how well they’d work together. Victoria didn’t mean to imply that she needed Adam’s help. She informed him that she’d already hired someone she could trust – the only logical choice – her mother.

Nikki met Victor at Crimson Lights and told him that Victoria offered her the co-CEO job. Nikki thought that it made sense for her to step into the position. Victor said it was a smart move on Victoria’s part. Nikki said they both knew it was a strategic move to keep Adam out, but she said she’d do an excellent job. He was sure she would. He wasn’t going to fight Victoria on hiring Nikki. He said if he imposed his will on Victoria, she’d be very upset, and if he preferred Adam over her, he’d never hear the end of it. He took Nikki’s hands and called her Madame CEO.

Recap written by Christine

Chance came home after a rough day at work – he’d just had to tell Sharon the autopsy results. He told Abby that Rey had a heart attack, causing him to lose control of the car. He said there was nothing anyone could’ve done – Rey’s fate was sealed the night he said goodbye to Sharon, and he had no idea he’d never see her again. Abby felt bad for Rey’s family. She knew it took a toll on Chance too. He said Rey helped him multiple times in multiple ways. Rey was Chance’s best friend. Abby didn’t want Chance to let the sadness and grief of the tragedy overwhelm him, like Spain. Someone rang the doorbell, and Abby wanted Chance to send them away, so this talk could continue. Chance went to the door – it was Victor.

Victor was informed about Rey’s heart attack. He thought it was terrible, and he asked how Sharon was doing. Chance said the news hit her hard, but at least she had a definitive explanation. Victor asked if Victoria knew. She didn’t. Chance had called, but she didn’t pick up. Victor said he’d let her know. Abby said that Victor couldn’t just rush off. She asked why he came. He wanted to see the baby. She said it wasn’t a good time, as he was napping. Victor decided to wait until his grandson woke up and have a chat with Chance in the meantime. Abby went upstairs to check Dominic. Victor wanted to see how Chance was doing after losing his partner. Chance said that the loss stirred up some of the same feelings he had after the explosion. He was managing, but Abby saw how this was weighing on him, and it worried her. Victor said that this was a reminder to embrace life with his beautiful wife and son. Victor said this would help Chance heal, and more importantly, be strong, because he never knew when his wife would need to lean on him.

Chance thanked Victor for the wisdom and said he needed it. Victor was proud of how Chance, Abby and Devon came together for Dominic. Victor couldn’t wait for Dom to be old enough to share sports stories with. Abby came down and said the baby was awake, so Victor went up to see him. Abby was pleased to see a smile on Chance’s face. His talk with Victor helped. Victor came downstairs and marveled at how much Dom had grown. Abby was going to walk her dad out, but he told her to stay with her husband. He left. Abby hugged Chance.

Chance didn’t want Abby to be scared for him. He was processing Rey’s death, but he wasn’t going to fall apart this time. He’d grieve and miss his friend dearly, but he promised it wouldn’t be like before. She asked if he was sure. He said he was s much stronger now. He vowed to be the husband and father she needed him to be. He knew how lucky he was to have her and Dom, and he wouldn’t waste a minute they had together by shutting down. He was going to show both of them how much he loved them. She kissed him.

Jack and Phyllis were at Crimson Lights. He was worried about the meeting between Kyle and Diane. He hoped Kyle would cancel. He was concerned he’d made a big mistake facilitating this meeting, and if he had, Kyle would pay the price. Jack said Diane was manipulative, and Kyle would be vulnerable because she was his mom. Phyllis was sure Jack did the right thing. He thanked her for the support and perspective. She said she was very mature. He knew she was joking, but he thought that was true lately.

Phyllis asked what Jack would do if Kyle wanted a relationship with Diane. Jack said he’d urge Kyle to give this some thought, but ultimately, he’d have to honor Kyle’s wishes and tell Kyle to proceed with caution. Phyllis knew that if Summer saw that Diane’s motives were less than pure, she’d have a long talk with Kyle, and she’d get in Diane’s face and tell her to back off. Jack asked what if, by some miracle, Diane really changed. He wondered if they should give her the benefit of the doubt. Phyllis was completely against that. She wondered where this was coming from, since he had a different opinion two seconds ago. “So you get to play Devil’s advocate, but I don’t?,” he asked. He said his mother abandoned three children, not one, and when she came back into their lives, they were able to reconcile. Jack and Dina made an emotional connection with Dina that had been missing his whole life. As absurd as it seemed, he hoped the same could be true for his son. He said a love for a child could change someone. He said they were making assumptions about someone they knew years ago. Phyllis argued that present day Diane sent a bunch of cryptic texts to Jack. He noted that Diane helped him meet his granddaughter. Phyllis said Diane chose to do it a creepy and cryptic and duplicitous way. Jack agreed with that, but he said that the end result was positive. Phyllis said Diane planned for Jack to see it that way, and it worked. Jack wasn’t grateful to Diane, but he couldn’t discount the possibility that some of what she said about her personal development was true. Phyllis understood that Jack was trying to put a positive spin on the possibility of Kyle giving Diane a chance. However, Phyllis couldn’t fathom the idea that Diane was less of a sociopath. Jack noted that some people would say the same thing about Phyllis. Phyllis snapped that no one would say that because she didn’t fake her own death and let someone else almost go down for it, like Diane did with Nikki. Phyllis saw no sign of change in Diane. Jack said Phyllis was right. She implored him not to let his guard down with Diane. He promised he wouldn’t.

At the Abbott house, Diane came face to face with Kyle. With tears in her eyes, she thanked him for giving her a chance to explain herself. Kyle replied that she had a hell of a lot of explaining to do. Diane had a lot of memories in this house. She wished she could make this easy for him, but nothing about this was easy. She was sure he was confused and angry. She wasn’t expecting anything from him, except maybe an open mind. She said he must be in shock. He didn’t want her making assumptions about his state of mind. He was barely sure of his own feelings. She was moved by seeing his face. He said it’d been so long – he asked if she even recognized him. She said she’d know him anywhere. He felt the same of her. She admitted she’d been following his life online. “Lucky you. I certainly didn’t get that opportunity,” he replied. She was proud of his success at work and in life. He didn’t want her to make this about him. He wanted to hear about her. Diane said she was an open book. On the verge of tears, he asked why she faked her death.

Kyle thought it was so much worse that Diane followed his life from a distance. He said she cared enough to keep track, but not enough to reach out. Diane swore she missed Kyle every day and never stopped loving her. He noted all evidence was to the contrary. He remembered the last time they saw each other, she sent him off to boarding school and told him he had to use a fake name. He went along with it and trusted her when she said she’d be joining him in Europe soon, but she never came. Jack came and told him that Diane had been killed. “When exactly did you decide I wasn’t worth coming for,” he asked. She said she always wanted to come for him. He didn’t believe it. She sent him away because she was in way over her head, and she was scared the people she’d pushed past their limits would retaliate by taking him away from her in court. The Newmans and Abbotts didn’t agree on much, but they were very powerful, and they all hated her, and they weren’t the only ones. She was desperate to escape, and with Deacon’s help, she found a way to disappear. She’d intended to reunite with him once she was safely away from Genoa City, then she realized she couldn’t. Her life as she knew it was over, when she faked her death, and if she’d taken him with her, she would’ve ruined his life too, and she couldn’t do that.

Kyle said Diane might have told herself that she was doing the best thing for him, since he had a mother who was so damaged, but what he was hearing was that she abandoned him. She said that leaving him was like leaving a piece of her soul behind. He thought those were just words. She said he was her only child, her pride and joy, and nothing ever mattered to her as much as him. After all the mistakes she made, she had nothing to offer him but a life on the run. She said Jack would’ve never stopped looking for Kyle. She would’ve turned him into a fugitive, right along with her. He felt that hse didn’t want him dragging her down. She said he was toxic back then and for a long time afterward, and he deserved to be with Jack, the parent who could give him stability. She thought she made the right choice, given how well he turned out. “You may be right, that having you as my one and only parent in such a messed up state would’ve been a disaster for me,” he admitted. However, at the time, all he knew was he lost the mom he adored. It was the worst pain he’d ever experienced. He couldn’t imagine letting his own son suffer like that. She apologized profusely, but she said he would’ve paid a different and far more terrible price if she raised him on the run away from the people who loved him. He said his father did his best, and he never tore Diane down in Kyle’s eyes or tarnished his happy memories of her. She was beyond grateful, and she said she owed Jack a huge debt, because it was more than she deserved. Back then, she was greedy, vindictive, cruel and dangerously ambitious. He was surprise she freely admitted that. She promised she wouldn’t hide anything from him ever again. He asked how he was supposed to believe she changed.

Kyle said Diane was claiming she changed, but she lured his dad to LA using Keemo’s death, and she manipulated Jack and Allie. He said she’d been secretive and deceitful. Diane said she did this as a gesture of goodwill. She said she needed to remain anonymous because if she’d contacted Jack directly, he would’ve shut her down. He conceded that Jack said the same thing. However, Kyle said Diane could’ve just contacted him. She disagreed because she thought it would’ve been too much of a shock. She thought it was better for Jack to break the news and give Kyle a chance to decide. He admitted she was probably right. She was sure he wondered why she came forward now, instead of years ago, and she said it was because she wasn’t ready back then. She went to therapy and tried to become someone worthy of being his mother. It took a lot of hard work and owning up to her mistakes and trying to understand how she became so vindictive and spiteful. How she took the beautiful life they had in Toronto and destroyed it completely. She was ashamed of who she was, but she’d done everything in her power to change and grow, and she’d vowed to never be that woman who caused so much chaos and hurt him so badly. She wouldn’t have reached out if she thought she’d still be a negative force in his life.

Kyle asked what Diane wanted from him – did she want forgiveness, so she could move on, or did she want a place in his life, because he wasn’t sure he was capable of that. He spent a long time making peace and figuring out who he was without her to guide him. He was now the happiest he’d ever been, and the family he built with Summer and Harrison was the mot important thing to him. He could not and would not bring any turmoil into their world. “I can’t sacrifice their happiness because I am messed up on account of you,” he said. She understood, and she said it was far too soon to even think about what the future might hold for him and her. She did hope that he could at least contemplate forgiveness at some point.

Kyle said Diane was asking a lot. She knew, but she’d promised to be straightforward. She figured she should go, but she asked if they could meet again. He wasn’t ready to commit to that yet. Jack and Phyllis strolled in. He apologized – he didn’t realize Diane would still be there. He said he’d go, but Diane was already on her way out. Diane thanked Kyle for allowing her to have this conversation with him. She left.

Kyle asked where Harrison was. Traci took him on an outing. Jack said he wouldn’t press for details about Diane. Kyle said he’d tell Jack about it later, but right now he needed air. Jack promised he’d be there if Kyle needed him. Kyle knew. He left. Phyllis comforted Jack.

When Diane got to her suite, she was shaken to see Victor inside waiting for her.

Sharon: I should warn you — if you’re here with another condolence basket, we’re all stocked up.

Adam: I’m so sorry for, um — for your loss.

************************

Sharon: I’M… you know, I’m hanging in. I just keep telling myself that, uh [Sniffles] One day eventually I’m — I’m just gonna come to terms with this and I’m gonna start to heal.

Adam: Sharon. That’s a load of crap.

Sharon: What?

Adam: Hey, I’m not one of those sweet, kind coddlers. Far from it. So we can skip the platitudes. That’s not who we are to each other. So, how about being honest with me?

Sharon: [ Sniffles ] You want to know how I really feel?

Adam: Yes. Why else would I avoid everybody’s well-meaning advice to stay far away?

Sharon: I’m, uh… I’m tired of everybody treating me like I’m made of porcelain.

[ Voice breaking ] I’m tired of everybody being careful around me, using a whispering voice, asking me if I’m capable of doing the things that I want to do.

Ashland: Oh, my! Look at how big you are. How did you get to be so big?

Harrison: Father, you have two big ouchies.

Ashland: Yes, I do. I burned my hand and I hurt my foot in an accident, but I’m gonna be okay.

[ Chuckles ] Um…I’m sorry, I don’t know if this is appropriate, but would it be possible for me to, um… maybe take him to the park for a few minutes or just a bite to eat?

Jack: I think that’s a lovely idea. I’m sure the two of you could use some time together, and Kyle and I have our own catching up we need to do.

Kyle: Yeah. Okay, Harrison, um…hey. Be a good boy, okay? Alright. I’ll see you in a bit.

[ Chuckles ]

Ashland: Take my hand. Come on, here we go. Kyle. Thank you. Come on, let’s go. Here we go.

Kyle: I know I’m new to being a dad, and every day is a learning experience. But…even though I’ve only been a parent for a short while, i still have a hard time saying goodbye to my son for any length of time. So, dad, tell me, how is it my mother disappeared all those years?

***************

Phyllis: Why are you so rattled? Who did you see?

Diane: No one recognized me. I saw nothing but a bunch of old memories.

Phyllis: Oh, visions from your past, maybe one of the suspects who tried to murder you? You know, I have a great idea. Why don’t you reconsider being dead? How ’bout that? Reconsider being dead. – Look, this isn’t my first rodeo,

Diane: Because I had crossed some very powerful people, and i was terrified that they’d never leave me alone. Okay, maybe it wasn’t rational, but I wasn’t thinking rationally. I had boxed myself into a corner.

Nikki: Oh, and apparently you decided that the only way to get out of that box was to ruin my life. You know, if you had to play dead, you could’ve had the courtesy to stay that way.

****************

Phyllis: Well, it’s not like Nikki can be charged with the same murder twice, so…

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: Just in case, I’m taking this lamp. I warned you not to come out of here.

Diane: Goodbye, Phyllis.

Phyllis: Diane, this is my hotel. Get out of the lobby — I’m serious. You don’t belong down here. If you want to relax, perhaps we’ll send a masseuse up to your room. That’d be great. Maybe a bottle of rosé. On the house, no arsenic.

Diane: Oh, that sounds lovely and not a threat at all.

**********************

Phyllis: Go. Don’t you dare leave this room without alerting me first, please.

Diane: Okay. So are you going to call room service?

Phyllis: What are you talking about?

Diane: Well, you promised me a bottle of rosé, remember?

Phyllis: Get it yourself.

Diane: On the house.

Phyllis: No, we’re not doing that for you.

Diane: Phyllis —

Phyllis: And by the way, the masseuse, he’s not coming up. If you want a masseuse, you call for it on your own. Got it?

Diane: So in other words, you will lie to my face if it means keeping me locked up in here.

Phyllis: Yes! I will lie to your face until you understand the severity and the stakes of the situation.

Diane: I understand them perfectly.

Transcript provided by Suzanne

Nikki: Hi, darling.

Victor: Hi, sweetheart. His is my baby? Sit down. So happy to see you. So, I was just texting with victoria, and, uh, she said she was fine but didn’t have time to talk to me.

Nikki: Oh, really?

Victor: Uh, you were just with her? How is she doing?

Nikki: Um, when I saw her a while ago, she said she was okay.

Victor: I’m very concerned about her, okay? My suggestion is that she go somewhere to regroup, get well again, and, um, maybe put adam… in a position of running newman while she’s not there. You know? But she insists that she’s going to power through this.

Nikki: Victor, I know that you’re concerned about victoria. So am I. But that’s not why I asked you to meet me.

Victor: Why? What’s the matter?

Nikki: Diane jenkins. That’s what’s the matter.

Victor: What do you mean, diane jenkins? That woman has been dead for years.

Nikki: Well, so we were led to believe.

Victor: Wait a minute. Diane jenkins? That brings up horrible memories. Are you saying she’s alive, or what?

Nikki: Oh, yes. And she had the audacity to come back here seeing forgiveness.

Harrison: Daddy!

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. Jack said you went for a walk.

Kyle: I needed to clear my head. But, harrison, I didn’t realize you’d be back so soon.

Jack: Yeah, uh, ashland dropped him off a little while ago. I think they had a great time in the park.

Kyle: Well, glad to hear it. Even though you’ve only been gone for a little while, i missed you, buddy. Aww. Hugging you always make me feel better.

Jack: [ Chuckles ]

Kyle: I don’t see how a parent can stand to be away from their child for long.

Diane: He’s really growing, isn’t he?

Jack: Yeah, look at these hands. My gosh, those are the hands of a future nba point guard.

Baby kyle: Ba-ba.

Diane: Or a world-renowned musician.

Baby kyle: Da-da.

Diane: You should hear the tunes he bands out on his little toy piano, right?

Jack: Yeah, “bangs” is the key word, right, buddy?

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Baby kyle: [ Babbling ]

Diane: I guess we’re like all parents, looking at our little one. Here. Wondering what he’ll grow up to be.

Baby kyle: [ Babbling ]

Diane: [ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ]

Chloe: Okay, well, I need more details so I can give lauren an accurate projection.

Chelsea: Like what?

Chloe: Well, have all the designs been finalized? Are we gonna get the fabric in time? Or we even gonna make our ship date?

Chelsea: Uh, um, but didn’t i share the production schedule with you? I-I thought I did.

Chloe: Okay, maybe we need to put the work aside and talk about what’s really going on with you.

Chelsea: I mean, I just lost one of my closest friends, suddenly, in a horrific car accident, and I’m struggling to understand how this could happen.

Chloe: I hope that you’re not blaming yourself for this. I mean, you can’t possibly believe that you’re at fault in any way.

Chelsea: If he hadn’t gone back for those tickets — those stupid tickets — he would still be alive today.

Chloe: Oh, honey, he forgot the tickets.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ]

Chloe: Uh, that doesn’t make you guilty of anything.

Chelsea: No, it’s true. Think about it. You know, a year ago, I put rey’s life at risk… before I knew what an amazing, incredible man he was, and he forgave me. After everything I did to him, he was willing to hang out with me and my son, and — and look what that led to.

Chloe: It was an accident. An awful, horrific accident. There is no one to blame here.

Chelsea: I just feel like if I hadn’t asked him —

Chloe: Chelsea, stop. I… kevin told me something in confidence, and I feel like you need to know.

Chelsea: What?

Chloe: Promise not to say anything… but rey didn’t die because of the car crash.

[ Sighs ] The autopsy reveals that he had a massive heart attack. That’s why he lost control of the car.

Adam: Look over the report on the, uh, marketing strategy for the sports side, and then follow up with accounting on the, uh, budget.

Sally: Will do. You know, it’s kind of exciting having all these extra responsibilities while you’re temporary ceo of newman/locke.

Adam: Hmm. For however long it lasts.

Sally: Your position has taken on a new significance ever since ashland relinquished control of the company. The newmans are finally rid of that man, thanks to you and your plan. You read the situation and locke perfectly.

Adam: It did work out exactly as I’d hoped.

Sally: You, my dear boss, managed to pull off something that no one else could do.

Adam: With a little help from my dad’s money.

Sally: Hey, don’t downplay your significance, okay? We talked about this. This was your big chance to secure your place at the company. It’s just a steppingstone to making your temporary position as ceo permanent.

Adam: [ Sighs ]

Sally: How cool is that?

Adam: [ Sighs ]

Sally: Wait. Unless something’s changed. (Jackie) I’ve made progress with my mental health.

Adam: The only thing that has changed is my strategy, not my goal. I’ve decided that I’m going to not push it, and I’m going to play things by ear.

Sally: Okay, well, you deserve to made permanent co-ceo. You know that. You’ve already proven it. And if this were any other company…

Adam: Ah, but this — this is not any other company. This is newman enterprises. Technically, newman/locke now. But I’m sure plans are already being made to rip locke’s name off of the building, the letterhead, advertising, and any other signage as we speak.

Sally: Okay, well, that makes an even stronger case that two newman sibling should be in charge.

Adam: Have I told you lately how much I appreciate you?

Sally: Not lately.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Know that it means a lot to me that you believe in me and you have my back. I, too, want to see my position made permanent.

Sally: Okay, then why are you not gearing up to go after it?

Adam: When victor introduced victoria’s plan, I only agreed to go along with it if I could retain my ceo title.

Sally: And victoria’s plan failed.

Adam: Exactly. Which is why I should not play it like that again.

[ Clears throat ]

Sally: But that way worked.

Adam: [ Sighs ] There is a saying in basketball, “let the game come to you.” I’m just gonna sit back and see how victoria plays this. If she treats me as a partner, I will act accordingly. And who knows? You know, maybe we’ll surprise each other and we can have a good working balance.

Sally: Okay, well, whatever she chooses to do, she’s gonna have the legacy of ashland locke hanging over her. The fact that she brought him so far into the company and into your lives is on her. There should definitely be repercussions.

Adam: I’d say she’s had a few already. That accident could have been deadly for her. Close call like that, that’s a pretty stiff price to pay.

Sally: Still, she’s got no choice but to accept that you are the one that finally freed her of that man by swooping in and cleaning up her mess.

Adam: That remains to be seen.

[ Sighs ] Meanwhile, my focus is on guiding you while you are in charge of newman media and while I try to find a way to work with victoria, which will become a permanent role.

Sally: So, you’re saying that you want me to take on more responsibility at newman media while you figure out your next move?

Adam: If you’re asking me if I have absolute faith in you and your ability in this position, the answer is yes. I would not put you in charge if I didn’t think you were gonna be terrific in this job. I’m counting on you to make me look good, which you are already doing.

Sally: You really think so?

Adam: You’re smart. You work harder than anyone that I know, and you’re certainly not lacking in confidence.

Sally: [ Chuckles ] Well, when you put it that way, I’m a real find, aren’t I?

Adam: And if there are any issues or questions as you are getting settled in, it’s not like I won’t be close by to advise you.

Sally: I can’t even begin to tell you how grateful I am for this opportunity. And I promise that I will do everything in my power to help you get the recognition that you deserve.

Adam: [ Sighs ]

Victor: How is it possible the woman is still alive?

Nikki: Two words — deacon sharp. He helped her fake her own death so that she could escape all the consequences of her misdeeds.

Victor: Wow. Boy, oh, boy, oh, boy, oh, boy. Now she has the unmitigated gall to return to the scene of her many crimes?

Nikki: I told her, after all the damage she did to me and my family that she better stay far away from all of us, especially nicholas.

Victor: When I think back on the amount of damage that woman caused with her so-called murder…

Nikki: She said she had to pretend to be dead so she could go away and work on herself. And now she wants to reconnect with kyle.

Victor: How the hell would he forgive her after all she has done to him?

Nikki: She’s banking on him being happy to learn that she’s still alive.

Victor: But if she’s so set on making up with her son, kyle, then why the hell doesn’t she go to milan instead of genoa city?

Nikki: Oh, well, because she’s a changed woman now. She wants to make amends with all of us.

Victor: Does she honestly believe that we buy her garbage?

Nikki: [ Scoffs ]

Victor: After all that she has done to everyone, especially to you and kyle?

Nikki: Well, and you, too. You took the blame for her murder to protect victoria and me.

Victor: How the hell does that woman have the guts to show her face here again?

Nikki: Oh, I don’t think she’ll stick around very long. There really won’t be a reason to. I mean, I can’t imagine kyle forgiving her for letting him think that his mother’s been dead all these years.

Victor: [ Sighs ] My goodness. After everything that we have been through lately, that’s the last thing we need.

Phyllis: Hey, harrison, I bet you’re super hungry after the big day you’ve had today. You know what? I have a secret. Your aunt traci has a super, super yummy surprise for you in the kitchen.

Kyle: [ Whistles ]

Harrison: Yum

Phyllis: Yum! Let’s go get it. I’ll race you. Whoo!

Jack: You and summer have done a terrific job. That’s a confident, happy little boy.

Kyle: Yeah, yeah, he’s really adjusted well to his new italian lifestyle. We’re very proud of him. The last thing we want is something to disrupt his happy home.

Jack: So, did, uh, getting out of the house help you figure a few things out?

Kyle: Yeah, the crisp spring air really made it easier to think clearly, especially with my emotions all over the place.

[ Sighs ] One minute, I can get over the fact that my mother chose — chose to let me believe she was dead, never reaching out, never wanting me to know the truth. Just letting me go on with my life.

Jack: And you did go on. You created a great life for yourself and your family.

Kyle: Yeah, thanks to your love and support, dad.

Jack: But, no, I did my best to compensate for diane’s absence, but there’s no replacing the love of a mother.

Kyle: And as angry and sad and bitter as that makes me feel, I can’t but help think it’s a miracle. An answer to a million of my prayers as a little kid, “just, please, god, just — just give me one chance to see my mom again.”

Jack: And now your wish is being granted.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] But then I think, “why would — why would I ever buy in to anything she ever has to say again?” Why would I put my family through that much drama?

Jack: I know this is overwhelming. And I think it’s perfectly understandable that you would struggle with what it is you want to do next.

Kyle: Look, dad —

Jack: I want you to hear this. Don’t feel pressured. Not by diane, not by me, not by anyone. You take your time and you think it through, decide what you want to do.

Kyle: I’ve already made my decision. Tsk. I know what I’m gonna do. Feeling sluggish or weighed down?

Jack: Are you comfortable telling me what you decide?

Kyle: I want to hear her out. I think I’ll regret it for the rest of my life if I don’t give my mother a chance to explain herself.

Jack: You’re sure that’s what you want to do?

Kyle: Don’t worry, dad, I’m not imagining some big, emotional reunion. I’m not walking into it with any grand expectations. That’s for sure.

Jack: I think that’s the right attitude.

Kyle: Frankly, I don’t have a clue how I’ll react or what will happen after or if I’ll even want a place in her life again. But, dad, I-I need answers. I need her to tell me to my face why she left me in the dark for so long, letting me believe she was dead, and why, after all these years, she decided to come back. I can’t let those questions haunt me forever.

Jack: I understand more than you realize, because of what i went through with my own mother. No, dina did not fake her own death, but she disappeared. And there were times she seemed dead to all of us for long periods of time. She did that disappearing act more than once. And you know what? As angry, as disappointed, as abandoned as I may have felt, I could never bring myself to turn my back on her.

Kyle: I’m glad you can understand where I’m coming from. Would you be willing to reach out to my mom and make arrangements?

Jack: Yeah. Sure, I’d be happy to handle that.

Kyle: Thanks, dad. Support means more than you know right now.

Jack: Hey, come here.

Chelsea: Rey had a heart attack? That’s why he died, not the car crash?

Chloe: Exactly. So, please stop blaming yourself. There’s nothing you could have done differently to change the outcome.

Chelsea: So, if he hadn’t gone back to get the hockey tickets, connor and I could have been in the car with him when it happened.

Chloe: Possibly. So maybe you should be thankful that the two of you weren’t in the car accident.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] You know, adam said that ashland pulled victoria from her burning car, saving her life. Did he even try to do that with rey? Could his life have been saved?

Chloe: Don’t go down that rabbit hole. What happened, happened? There is no undoing any of it. I know that you and rey had become close friends and how difficult this loss is for you. But there’s no point in blaming anyone for this. You need to focus on moving forward right now.

Chelsea: Don’t you think I’m trying to do that, chloe?

Chloe: [ Sighs ]

Chelsea: Sorry.

[ Sighs ] I’m sorry. Just losing rey, it’s — it’s just hit me harder than i anticipated. It’s been really, really rough on connor. Yeah, he — he looked up to rey.

Chloe: We all loved rey.

Chelsea: You know what? It just kills me that someone as conniving and ruthless as ashland locke walks away from this accident, and someone as genuine and amazing as rey loses his life. It’s just not fair.

Sally: Ladies… nice to see you both.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Adam: How are you doing?

Chelsea: I’ll be okay. Our focus really needs to be on connor. Losing rey is a huge blow to him.

Adam: I know. I hope that we have persuaded him that he shouldn’t feel any responsibility for what happened.

Chelsea: Well, actually, i just found out something that’s going to help.

Adam: Yeah?

Chelsea: Rey’s actual cause of death was a heart attack.

[ Glass slams on tabletop ] I’m sorry. What? I mean, everybody’s gonna find out soon anyway. Adam and I have to figure out a way to tell connor. Hopefully, it will help him come to terms with his loss and alleviate any guilt he might still feel.

Adam: Well, I hope you’re right. I know how hard this has been on him. I am planning a special outing to, uh, cheer him up.

Chelsea: That’s a great idea. Connor always loves being with his dad. Maybe the three of us could do something together. We can talk it through with him as a family, give him a real sense of stability.

Adam: Uh, let’s talk about it. Maybe we could work something out.

Chelsea: Really, adam? Why can’t you commit to something as simple as a family outing for the sake of our son?

Adam: Relax, chelsea. I didn’t say that i wouldn’t do it.

Chelsea: Well, you didn’t say you would, either. Why? Is it because sally’s here? You don’t want to send her the wrong message? Clearly, things have progressed between the two of you.

Adam: I know you’re upset about rey, and again, I’m sorry that you lost such a good friend.

Chelsea: Well, there’s no doubt they’re a couple now.

Chloe: [ Sighs ] Well, that’s a real possibility, but who cares? And what was the point of confronting them in that way? What was that supposed to accomplish? You no longer have any romantic attachment to adam, right? Because you have certainly gone out of your way to convince me of that. Please, chelsea… promise me that you are not going to use the emotional shock of losing your friend rey as an excuse to gravitate back toward adam.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Chelsea seems to be in a pretty bad way.

Adam: [ Sighs ] She and rey had, um, grown close over the last couple of months. They bonded over his kindness to connor.

Sally: Wasn’t it not that long ago that chelsea tried to kill rey?

Adam: She was going through an emotionally unstable time, and she actually was going after me, not him. She wanted to hurt me, so she made it look like I was the one that had poisoned rey.

Sally: So, she wanted to kill rey to get back at you?

Adam: Well, he was never exposed to enough poison to actually be at risk of dying, just enough to make him sick and, uh, me look guilty.

Sally: Well, it’s pretty amazing that you were able to find a way to forgive her after chelsea tried to set you up like that.

Adam: Well, like I said, there were a lot of extenuating circumstances.

Sally: Regardless, says a lot about you and the kind of man that you are.

Adam: [ Sighs ] I’m a man who lives in a glass house, and so I can’t afford to throw stones.

Sally: Me either.

[ Chuckles ]

Adam: Well, I’m sure you’ve done things that you’re not proud of, but nothing that bad.

[ Sighs ]

Sally: Well…

Adam: Is there something you want to tell me?

Sally: [ Sighs ]

[ Knock on door ]

Diane: [ Gasps ] Jack. This is a surprise. Uh, come in.

Jack: Kyle asked me to talk to you.

Diane: Wait. So, he’s in town? H-have you spoken with him?

Jack: As I’m sure you can imagine, he’s in shock. Having a bit of trouble processing everything that’s happened.

Diane: [ Gasps ] Well, I’m — I’m sure that you’ve remained somewhat evenhanded about all this, despite your personal feelings towards me and — and what I’ve done, but [Chuckles] I sincerely doubt that phyllis has shown the same restraint. I mean, I-I-I’m sure she’s been trashing me to kyle.

Jack: Hold on. Phyllis is not the problem. If she is worried about the impact of your resurrection on her daughter, kyle’s wife, and their family, I think she is more than justified. Now, get this through your head. Whatever my son is feeling right now has nothing to do with anything phyllis said to him. It has everything to do with you — your choices, your actions.

Diane: [ Sighs ] With golo, I’ve lost 13 inches in my waist.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Diane: [ Sighs ] Jack, you’re right. I’m — I’m — I’m sorry. I spoke without thinking. It’s just, my, uh — my emotions are all over the place.

Jack: I am trying very hard right now to serve as an honest and fair sounding board for kyle.

Diane: Yes, he’s — he’s all I can think about, too.

Jack: So, while every impulse in me is flashing red, warning me not to trust you, kyle is my priority, and I think he deserves to know the truth. So I shared with him your story. I answered his questions as honestly as I could, and I tried to explain what is still, to me, the inexplicable — how a parent can walk away from their child.

[ Sighs ] But I left it up to kyle to decide what to do next.

Diane: And you came to deliver this bad news in person, that my son doesn’t want to see me? And it was his decision, right?

Jack: No. He wants to see you.

Diane: [ Gasps ]

Jack: He wants answers to the questions that are tearing him up inside. He wants to hear you out.

Diane: Oh, jack. My sons wants to see me? I don’t — I don’t know how i can ever thank you for making this —

Jack: Don’t — don’t — don’t thank me. A part of me wished he would abandon you just like you abandoned him.

Diane: That’s not who you are. You’re a good and fair-minded person.

Jack: I know how much this means to you. Just this once, please put kyle first? Try to think about what he’s going through, what he needs, not what you need… if that’s possible. I’m sorry, that needed to be said.

Diane: I — I get it. There was a time when I was completely self-involved, you know, and incapable of having empathy or — or even understanding how my actions affected others.

Jack: Well, I’m glad to hear you finally realize that.

Diane: What does that mean? That a part of you — a small part — [Chuckles] Is willing to accept the possibility that maybe I have changed?

Jack: I’ll go tell kyle that everything is set up.

Diane: Oh, b-before you go, I-I know, I know, I have no bus asking anything more of you, since you’ve already done so much already, but, jack, this is so important to me, seeing our son again after all this time.

Jack: So, you’re gonna ask me anyway.

Diane: Well, I just — I-i would like to meet him someplace other than this cold hotel room. You know? Someplace private, where we can speak freely, but — but maybe somewhere that kyle is more comfortable.

[ Sighs ] W-would it be possible if I came your way, if — if we could meet at the abbott house?

Jack: [ Sighs ] I am not thrilled at the idea of you stepping foot in my house, but, yeah, I guess I can see the advantage to kyle being on his home turf. Okay, fine. You can meet at the house.

Diane: Thank you, jack, for everything.

[ Sighs ] I’ll be over in a bit.

[ Chuckles ]

Jack: You do whatever you have to do. Kyle will be waiting for you.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ]

Sally: There is something that I never told you.

Adam: [ Sighs ]

Sally: Something that i didn’t want you to know about me.

Adam: [ Taps finger ]

Sally: But it seems like we are at a [Inhales deeply] Much different place now.

[ Sighs ] And I don’t like this old temptation that I’m having.

Adam: Well, sometimes temptations can be fun.

Sally: Not this one. It’s the inclination to lie and deceive and to make myself out to be better than I actually am. And I want to be completely honest with you.

Adam: Okay. Go for it.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Okay, it’s one of those things

[Sighs] That you are constantly trying to find ways to justify so you can live with yourself and look in the mirror. But it has been [Sighs] Pushing its way into my thoughts ever since we learned that… ashland was lying… about having cancer.

Adam: And why is that?

Sally: It’s just seeing how people reacted to that particular lie. Like there’s a special place reserved in hell for someone who would do that. A place that might… have a seat… reserved for me.

Adam: Wait, wait. What are you saying, that — that you…

Sally: In los angeles… there was this guy that I was completely in love with. Someone that I swore I could not live without. And after he [Sighs] Broke off our engagement for a second time, [Inhales deeply] I just was so, so desperate to win him back that it made me… physically sick. And because of that, wyatt started treating me differently and taking care of me.

[ Sighs ] Turns out, it was stress, but, um, wyatt didn’t know that. So I… faked… a terminal illness… to get him to stay. I know. I’m not proud of it at all. And, in fact, it is the most shameful thing I’ve ever done.

Adam: Well, then… why are you telling me now?

Sally: Because I’d rather you hear it from me now than from someone else at some point down the line.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Hmm.

[ Sighs ]

Sally: Well… are you gonna say something?

Adam: [ Chuckles ]

[ Tapping tabletop ] Did it work?

Sally: [ Chuckles ] If your moderate to severe crohn’s disease

Jack: Diane seemed genuinely thrilled and surprised that you agreed to meet with her.

Phyllis: Well, of course she was thrilled and surprised. She thought it was gonna go the other way.

Jack: I honestly think she was expecting a no. I told her the only reason you agreed to this is you wanted some answers, that you deserve to hear the whole story directly from her.

Kyle: So, what’d she say? How’d she react?

Jack: I think her expectations are realistic. At least, I hope they’re realistic. She did have one request.

Phyllis: Oh, wait, wait. She has a request?

Kyle: What is it?

Jack: The only place she doesn’t want to meet with you is in her hotel room. She asked if she could come here.

Phyllis: Did you agree to that?

Jack: Well, I was reluctant at first, but it occurred to me that it might be better for you, kyle.

Kyle: What, s-s-so, she’s coming h-here now?

Jack: Yes, soon, if that’s what you still want.

Kyle: Uh, no, no, t-this is good. Uh, dad, I need you and phyllis to do one thing. Keep harrison entertained and out of sight. At this point, I don’t want my son anywhere near my mother.

Diane: [ Inhales deeply ]

[ Sighs ]

Sally: [ Sighs ] Well, things definitely did not go as planned.

[ Sighs ] The fact that I was [Sighs] Faking my illness got revealed. And when everybody found out, I was reviled.

Adam: Hmm.

Sally: It’s the reason why i left los angeles.

Adam: Well, it means a lot that you’re being honest with me.

Sally: So… what do you think of me now, given how you reacted when you found out what ashland did?

Adam: Oh, well, that — that was a completely different situation. Ashland threatened my family and the business. That’s what I was reacting to, more than anything. But as far as his plan goes, I think it took guts. Objectively, I was impressed that he was able to pull that off as long as he did.

Sally: Seriously?

Adam: Look… a lifetime ago, I did something similar and just as outrageous that involved faking a medical condition to get what I wanted. And it was not pretty, either. Like I said, glass houses.

[ Sighs ]

Sally: I always thought we had a lot of things in common, but I never thought that this was gonna be one of them.

Adam: You still want to know what I’m really thinking?

Sally: I do.

Adam: I am glad that we can share anything and everything… because it seems like I’m falling in love with you, too.

Your mission:

Jack: Phyllis and I will be happy to keep harrison occupied and out of the house. We’ll take him on a little adventure.

Kyle: Thanks, dad. I just — I don’t want my son getting caught up in this drama or, worse, being confused by my mother’s presence.

Phyllis: Why don’t we take harrison and traci somewhere in town. We can leave through the back so we don’t run into diane.

Kyle: Yeah. Thanks again, both of you. Don’t worry, dad. I’ll — I’ll be fine. Go hang out with harrison. Have fun.

Jack: Yeah.

Sally: Well, it is about time. You certainly left me hanging long enough.

Adam: What do you mean?

Sally: Oh, don’t give me that. Really? When I admitted that I was in love with you, crickets. I was starting to think you were gonna just ignore it, pretend like it never happened.

Adam: You really believed… that I might be indifferent?

Sally: What was I supposed to think? And it took you long enough to say the words. I… I don’t know. Part of me wonders if I should believe that you really even mean them.

Adam: Uh… I can appreciate how you might feel that way. I-I don’t want there to be any further misunderstandings between us. So, why don’t we get out of here and we go somewhere where I can be perfectly clear?

Sally: It’s a good idea, because I think some clarity is definitely needed.

Adam: After you, miss.

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

[ Doorbell rings ]

[ Sighs ]

Next week on “the young and the restless”…

I’m actually glad you came by. There’s something you need to know.

Mariah: Tessa and I are getting married on may 13th, so, please, please say that you will still be here.

Billy: Can I ask you one more question? Is ashland locke still in your life?

Young & The Restless Update

Recap written by Christine

At Crimson Lights, Victor told Nikki that he thought Victoria should leave town to regroup and Adam should run Newman Locke while she was away. Nikki said she didn’t call Victor here to talk about Victoria, but about Diane Jenkins. Victor stated that Diane had been dead for years. Nikki revealed that Diane was alive, and she had the audacity to return seeking forgiveness. Nikki said Deacon helped Diane fake her death. Nikki told Diane to stay away from all of them, especially Nick. Victor thought about all the damage Diane’s fake murder caused. They discussed Diane’s interest in reconnecting with Kyle. Victor didn’t foresee Kyle forgiving Diane. Victor didn’t buy Diane’s garbage, after what she did to everyone, especially Nikki and Kyle. Nikki noted that Victor got hurt too – he took the blame for Diane’s murder to protect Nikki and Victoria. Nikki didn’t think Diane would stick around for long. She didn’t think Kyle would forgive his mother.

Harrison was in the living room with Jack and Phyllis. The little boy got excited when Kyle entered. Kyle had gone for a walk to clear his head. He didn’t realize Harrison was back. Jack said Ashland dropped him off a little while ago, and they’d had a great time at the park. Kyle gave his son a big hug and said he missed him. He didn’t understand how a parent could stand to be away from their child. Phyllis took Harrison to the kitchen to get a snack from his aunt Traci. Jack thought Kyle and Summer had done an excellent job with Harrison. Jack asked about Kyle’s walk. Kyle’s emotions were all over the place. He couldn’t believe his mom chose to let him think she was dead and just let him go on with his life. Jack said Kyle created a great life for himself and his family. Kyle said it was thanks to Jack’s love and support. Jack said he did his best, but he couldn’t replace the love of a mother. While Kyle was sad and angry, he couldn’t help feeling like Diane’s return was a miracle – an answer to the prayers he made as a little kid. On the other hand, he asked why he would ever buy into anything Diane said and put his family through that much drama. Jack didn’t want Kyle to feel pressured by anyone. He told his son to take his time and decide what he wanted to do. Kyle already knew what he wanted to do.

Kyle wanted to hear Diane out. He thought he’d regret it if he didn’t. Jack asked if Kyle was sure. Kyle assured Jack he wasn’t expecting some big emotional reunion. Jack thought that was the right attitude. Kyle wasn’t sure how he’d react or if he’d want Diane in his life afterward, but he needed answers from her. Jack said he understood more than Kyle realized, because of what he went through with his own mother. Dina didn’t fake her death, but she disappeared more than once. As angry, disappointed and abandoned as Jack felt, he couldn’t bring himself to turn his back on Dina. Kyle asked if Jack would reach out to Diane and make arrangements. Jack said yes, and they hugged.

Diane was in her suite. She had a flashback to a happy moment with Jack and an infant Kyle. They’d wondered what Kyle would grow up to be like. In the present, Diane looked pained. Jack showed up and told her he talked to Kyle and he was in shock. Diane said she was sure Jack had been evenhanded, but she believed Phyllis had been trashing her to Kyle. Jack said Phyllis wasn’t the problem. He felt that Phyllis was justified in being concerned about the impact that Diane’s return would have on Summer, Kyle’s wife. Jack said what Kyle was feeling now had nothing to do with anything Phyllis said to him and everything to do with Diane’s actions.

Diane apologized. Jack said he was trying very hard to be an honest and fair sounding board to Kyle. His instincts told him not to trust her, but he felt Kyle needed the truth. He’d tried to explain the inexplicable to Kyle – how a parent could walk away from their child. Diane was near tears because she thought Jack had come to deliver bad news in person. He clarified that Kyle wanted to see her. She thanked him. He said that part of him wished Kyle would abandon her, like she abandoned him. Diane didn’t think Jack sincerely felt that way, because he wasn’t that kind of person. Jack begged Diane to put Kyle first and think about his needs, not hers. He was sorry that needed to be said. She understood. She conceded there was a time she was self involved an incapable of understanding how her actions effected others. She asked if there was part of him that was willing to accept she changed. She asked if she could meet Kyle at the Abbott house, where Kyle could be comfortable and where it was private. Jack didn’t like the idea of Diane being in his house, but he could see how it would be beneficial to Kyle to see Diane on his home turf, so he agreed.

Jack went home and told Phyllis and Kyle what Diane said. Kyle seemed tense when Jack said Diane was already on her way, but he decided this was a good thing. Kyle asked them to keep Harrison entertained and out of sight. He didn’t want his son anywhere near his mother. Phyllis said they’d take Harrison and Traci to town.

Back at the hotel, Diane picked up the old picture of her, Jack and Kyle. She kissed her fingertips and touched the photo. There was a knock on the door, and Kyle took a breath, then he came face to face with his mother.

Sally and Adam were at work. She said it was exciting having extra responsibility while he was temporary CEO of Newman Locke. “However long it lasts,” he said. She stated that Ashland was gone thanks to Adam pulling off something no one else could do. He said his dad’s money helped. She didn’t want him to downplay his significance. She said this was just a stepping stone to making his temporary position as CEO permanent. She asked if something had changed. His strategy had changed, but not his goal. He decided not to push things. She said he deserved to be permanent CEO, and he would be if this were any other company. He said that this wasn’t any other company – it was Newman Enterprises. He was sure that plans were in progress to rip Locke’s name off the building, ads and letterhead. She thought that made an even stronger case that two Newman siblings should be in charge. He appreciated her believing in him. He also wanted to see his position made permanent, but he was going to take a different approach. He said there was a saying in basketball “let the game come to you.” He was going to sit back and see how Victoria played this. If Victoria treated him like a partner, he’d act accordingly, and maybe she’d surprise him and they could have a good working balance.

Sally said whatever Victoria chose to do, she’d have the legacy of Ashland Locke hanging over her. She thought there should be repercussions to bringing Ashland into the company and into their lives. Adam said there had already been a few – Victoria was in an accident that could’ve been deadly for her, so that was a pretty steep price to pay. Sally said Victoria had no choice but to accept Adam saved her from Ashland by swooping in and cleaning up the mess. He said that remained to be seen. He was going to focus on guiding Sally while she was in charge at Newman Media and while he tried to find a way to work with Victoria. He had absolute faith in Sally and her ability to manage the company. He was counting on her to make him look good, which she was already doing. He said she was smart, a harder worker than anyone he knew, and she didn’t lack confidence. She was grateful for the opportunity, and she promised to do everything in her power to help him get the recognition he deserved.

At Society, Chloe tried to hold a work meeting with Chelsea. Chelsea was distracted, so Chloe put the work aside so they could talk. Chelsea said she just lost one of her closest friends in a car accident. She felt guilty. If Rey never went back for those stupid tickets, he’d still be alive. Chloe said it wasn’t Chelsea’s fault that Rey forgot the tickets. Chelsea said a year ago, she put Rey’s life at risk, and he forgave her and was willing to hang out with her and her son, and look what that lead to. Kevin told Chloe something in confidence, and she wanted to share it with Chelsea. She told her not to share this with anyone, but Rey had a massive heart attack and that was why he lost control of the car. He didn’t die because of the crash.

Chelsea realized that if Rey never went back to get the tickets, she and Connor could’ve been in the car with him when he had his heart attack. Adam told Chelsea that Ashland pulled Victoria out of the burning car. She wondered if Ashland tried to help Rey too, and if he could’ve survived. Chloe didn’t think Chelsea should go down that rabbit hole – what happened happened, and there was no point in blaming anyone. Chloe thought Chelsea should move forward. Chelsea snapped that sh was trying to. She then apologized. Chelsea said this had been hard on Connor too. It just killed her that Ashland walked away from this accident, while someone as genuine as Rey was dead.

Sally and Adam came to the restaurant, and he asked Chelsea how she was. She said they had to focus on Connor. Losing Rey was a huge blow. Adam hoped they helped Connor realize that Rey’s death wasn’t his fault. Chelsea immediately revealed the confidential details of Rey’s death. Chloe glared at Chelsea, who apologized and contended that everyone was going to find out soon anyway. Adam said he was planning a special outing for Connor. Chelsea was interested in going too. She said they could talk to their son as a family and make him feel stable. Adam was noncommittal. Chelsea thought Adam should be able to commit to something as simple as a family outing for their son’s sake. Adam pointed out that he never said he wouldn’t do it. Chelsea countered that he never said he would, either. She asked if he was being this way because of Sally. It was clear to Chelsea that things had progressed between Adam and Sally. Adam knew Chelsea was upset about Rey, and he was sorry she lost such a good friend. He and Sally walked away.

Chelsea grumbled that there was no doubt Sally and Adam were a couple. Chloe didn’t see why that mattered or what Chelsea hoped to accomplish with that confrontation. She hoped Chelsea wasn’t going to use the emotional shock of Rey’s death as an excuse to gravitate toward Adam.

At their table, Sally said Chelsea was in a bad way. Adam explained that Rey and Chelsea bonded. Sally heard Chelsea tried to kill Rey. Adam said that Chelsea was unstable back then, and she’d been going after him, not Rey. She made it look like Adam poisoned Rey. “She wanted to kill Rey to get back at you?,” Sally asked. Adam said Rey was never given enough poison to kill him, just enough to make him sick and make Adam look guilty. Sally thought it was amazing that Adam forgave Chelsea after she set him up. He said there were extenuating circumstances, and he was in a glass house, so he couldn’t afford to throw stones. She said she couldn’t either. He was sure she never did anything that bad. “Well…,” Sally replied. He asked if there was something she wanted to tell him.

Sally had something she never wanted Adam to know, and she didn’t like this old temptation she was having. She was tempted to lie and deceive, but she wanted to be honest with him. There was something that had been pushing its way into her thoughts ever since they found out Ashland was lying about having cancer. She saw people acting like there was a special spot in Hell reserved for Ashland, and she admitted that there might also be a seat for her too. There was this guy in LA that Sally was completely in love with, and he broke off their engagement for a second time. She’d been so desperate to win him back, it made her physically sick, and Wyatt took care of her. It turned out that it was stress, but Wyatt didn’t know that, so she faked a terminal illness to get him to stay with her. She wasn’t proud of it. It was the most shameful thing she’d ever done. He asked why she was telling him. She wanted him to hear this from her, and not anyone else. Adam smiled and asked if Sally’s scheme worked.

Sally said the truth came out, and she was reviled, and that was why she left LA. Adam appreciated Sally’s honesty. She asked what he thought of her, given how he reacted to what Ashland did. He said that was a different situation – Ashland went after Adam’s family and the company. Adam thought Ashland’s plan was gutsy and he was impressed Ashland managed to pull it off for so long. A lifetime ago, Adam faked a medical condition to get what he wanted too. So he couldn’t judge. Sally always thought they had a lot in common, but she never thought that would be one of them. He was glad they could share things because he was falling in love with her too. Sally said Adam certainly left her hanging long enough. When she told him she was falling in love with him, there were crickets, and she thought he was just going to ignore it. Part of her wonders if he meant this. He suggested they go somewhere else, so he could be perfectly clear about his feelings. That sounded good to her. Chelsea seethed watching Sally and Adam leave.

Lily: Hey. Sorry I’m late.

Billy: It’s okay.

Lily: Are you still waiting to hear back from victoria?

Billy: Straight to voicemail, like every other time. She’s not answering my text messages or my e-mails. At this point, I’m just grateful that the kids are away at school and that they don’t know their mother was involved in a car accident.

Lily: Well, look, there’s one thing that victoria needs from you right now.

Billy: What would that be?

Lily: It’s space. I know what it’s like to be a part of a car crash where there was a fatality.

Billy: You’re right. I’m sorry.

Lily: No, it’s just — it’s overwhelming. And the pain and guilt never goes away.

Billy: [ Exhales sharply ] I don’t want to add to her burden. I really don’T. I just simply want to wrap my head around how it all happened and what the hell ashland locke had to do with it.

Victoria: No, everything is not gonna be fine. I keep making the same mistakes with men.

[ Screams ]

[ Brakes squeal ]

[ Crashing ]

Ashland: Victoria, can you hear me? Open your eyes. Wake up. You can do this.

[ Papers rustling ]

[ Pen thuds ]

Amanda: Well, hello.

Devon: Hey.

Imani: Like?

Amanda: I love.

Imani: This is my “make a good impression” suit, a reminder not to overstep like i did last time.

Amanda: Aw. You were excited.

Imani: Um, who’s attending this meeting?

Devon: It’s gonna be yourself, amanda, me, lily, billy, and nate.

Imani: Nate, huh? I knew this was a smart career move.

Amanda: [ Sighs ]

Elena: I wish we could just stay here all day.

Nate: Well, okay. Um, forget my new job and your shift at the hospital. We can stay in each other’s arms all day.

Elena: Yeah. After what happened with rey, I just… I want to stop time and spend the rest of the day with you.

Nate: [ Chuckles ]

Elena: Telling you how much you mean to me and how glad I am that you came into my life. Are you stealing kisses now?

Nate: Mm, I give them freely.

Elena: [ Sighs ] I just want an overflow of good memories of our time together.

Nate: Yeah. Life is short. I guess there’s only one thing we can do about that.

Elena: Yeah? What?

Sharon: [ Sniffles ]

[ Shoe thuds ]

[ Knock on door ]

[ Mug thuds ]

Sharon: I should warn you — if you’re here with another condolence basket, we’re all stocked up.

Adam: I’m so sorry for, um — for your loss. The lows of bipolar depression

provided by… doesn’t your family deserve the best?

Lily: What makes you think that ashland is responsible for the accident?

Billy: Last time I talked to nick, he said there was a blueprint to get ashland out of the company and victoria’s life, that he wasn’t gonna let ashland get away with what he did. So, why was he out there with victoria on that desolate stretch of road but not in the same car?

Lily: So, what are you thinking?

Billy: Was he following her? Why is he doing that if their marriage is over? It doesn’t add up.

Lily: I mean, look, with ashland, there’s always another lie waiting to be exposed.

Billy: I agree. So, if we put our heads together, how do we figure out a way to get ashland as far away from genoa city and victoria as possible?

Lily: You didn’t let me finish. What ashland did is reprehensible. But you and I are not responsible for holding him accountable.

Nate: Have you called lola?

Elena: Yes. We didn’t speak much, though. Mostly cried.

Nate: Mm.

Elena: She did tell me some stories about what it was like having rey as an older brother.

[ Chuckles ]

Nate: That must have been tough.

Elena: Yeah. But it did give me a little perspective. I mean, rey has made such a huge impact on this world. And so many people are gonna miss him.

Nate: [ Sighs ]

Elena: And I guess it’s a good thing that that whole family has each other to lean on.

Nate: [ Sighs ] I wonder if anyone’s asking questions about this accident. And ashland.

Lily: Why? You think there’s more to it than bad weather?

Nate: If he’s capable of faking cancer, what won’t he do? Was he stalking victoria out there on that road? Did he cause the accident to be her knight in shining armor? Or because he wanted to cause her greater harm and rey was just collateral damage?

Elena: Are you saying you think rey’s death was foul play?

Nate: I don’t want to jump to any conclusions. I’m just saying, wherever ashland goes, trouble is not far behind.

Victoria: [ Exhales sharply ] What are you doing here? How did you even get past security?

Ashland: Well, I had to dodge the guards downstairs, but, um, I learned a few tricks while i was working here.

Victoria: What do you want? The last time we spoke, you claimed you were leaving town.

Ashland: Yeah, I did say that, but, um — but I couldn’t really go anywhere until I saw for myself that you’re doing okay. And since you’re not answering my texts or my phone calls, i decided I was willing to risk the wrath of the newmans by coming here.

Victoria: Well, you can see for yourself I’m perfectly fine.

Ashland: Well, I can also see your cane. Please, victoria, just be honest with me, and I’ll go peacefully. How are you feeling?

Sharon: Just find a place to sit if you can. I’ll —

Adam: No, no, it’s — it’s fine. You don’t — sharon, you don’t have to move anything. I’m fine.

Sharon: No, that’s really okay. I got it.

[ Exhales heavily ]

Adam: Well, I’d ask you how you’re doing, but…

Sharon: Yeah. It’s still just such a shock.

Adam: I’m sorry that I didn’t drop by earlier. I didn’t want to cause you any more stress with your family. I know I’m the last person that they wanted to see. So, waited till the coast was clear, soon as I saw you were alone.

Sharon: Well, that’s my life now, isn’t it? Better get used to it. Being alone.

Victoria: I told you on the phone that my injuries aren’t severe.

Ashland: Is it really so terrible that I wanted to see for myself?

Victoria: I wouldn’t lie about my health. That’s your area of expertise.

Ashland: Ouch.

Victoria: What about your hand? Your foot? I know those injuries are real because I saw them.

Ashland: Well, the pain is nothing compared to everything else I’m feeling. I know, though, that I can’t really expect sympathy from you right now. I’ll just tell you what I told harrison when he saw the bandage and the boot. It’s gonna be okay.

Victoria: Harrison’s in town?

Ashland: With kyle. Yes.

Victoria: I haven’t seen him since —

Ashland: Since tuscany.

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

Ashland: How are you really?

Victoria: I just — I keep replaying the events in my mind, the ones that I can remember. What if you hadn’t been following me? Would I have died alone on that road the way that rey did? Would the crash have ever even happened? I-I don’t know. What if I never met you in the first place? Would rey be alive right now? Would he be at home with his family?

Ashland: I keep doing the same thing. Replaying events in my mind.

Victoria: You mean the day of the — the crash?

Ashland: No.

[ Chuckles ] Stuff that happened before that. Things I should have said, tha I should have done differently. But mainly there’s a wish. I wish that you could understand that no matter what’s happened between us, my love for you will never go away. And I keep hoping that there will be one true, perfect moment when you forgive me.

Sharon: Oh, gosh, you didn’t have to make a fresh pot. There’s a whole samovar back there that someone brought over.

Adam: You’re kidding.

Sharon: No. Bringing coffee to a coffeehouse owner? Um, but it was really nice of her.

Adam: Who brought it?

Sharon: Um, the woman who owns the diner on highway A. Apparently, rey would stop there and get a cup of coffee when he was working late.

Adam: How are you coping?

Adam: Well, I would never question your strength, sharon.

Sharon: I’m crushed. I’m gutted. And I’m so, so angry. And I just — I have one question. Why? Why? How does a man like ashland locke, who faked having a terminal illness, who — who mocks death, who treats people like they are just disposable — how does a worthless piece of filth like him, who’s contributed nothing in the way of joy, nothing valuable to the world — why is he still alive? Why is he still living and rey, a man who is — is so good, who helped people, who meant so much to so many — I…

Adam: Including connor. Rey helped him get through a tough time.

Sharon: [ Sniffles ]

[ Sighs ] My husband just — he had a way of bringing out the best in people. I was a different me when I was with rey. It was — it was just so easy with him. You know, he — he loved me with all his heart. He loved my family. And nobody has any idea of all the things that he did for me when I had cancer and the lengths that he went to. And he knew that people — he knew people are flawed, and… he forgave me for all of my mistakes. Not the least of which was that time when you kissed me.

Adam: [ Chuckles ]

Sharon: He forgave the woman who poisoned him. A man with such a big heart…

[Voice breaking] He was so generous. He didn’t deserve to have his life end, not this way, not so soon.

[ Sobbing ] He didn’t deserve it.

[ Breathing heavily ] Do you struggle with occasional nerve aches

Elena: So, even though things have been crazy, it is still your big day.

Nate: Mm.

Elena: Your first official meeting as a member of the chancellor-winters team.

Nate: You’re not hiding anything, are you?

Elena: Why would I be hiding anything? I don’t have anything to hide.

Nate: Uh-huh.

Elena: Except for this.

[ Both chuckle ] Just a little something to commemorate the occasion.

Nate: You did not have to do this.

Elena: But I wanted to.

Nate: Ooh.

[ Chuckling ] Whoa-oa-oa.

Elena: What do you think?

Nate: Very nice. I love it.

Elena: I was hoping you’d say that.

Nate: Okay. If, um — if you hated my old tie that much, you could have just told me.

Elena: Mm, well… you know how proud I am of you, right?

Nate: No. I have no idea.

Elena: [ Laughs ] Joining a corporation and leaving the medical world behind.

Nate: Mm-hmm.

Elena: That is a very, very brave thing to do for someone as old as you are.

Nate: [ Laughs ] Very funny.

Elena: [ Chuckles ]

Nate: I appreciate this tie. And your support. Because even though you said you’re down for all of this, I still get a sense that you have some concerns.

Elena: Well, it’s like I told you. It just takes some getting used to. You as an executive and not dr. Nate hastings.

Nate: I’ll always be dr. Nate hastings.

Elena: And you’re sure this is right for you?

Nate: I’m positive.

Elena: Then I feel good about it, too.

Devon: So, you do know that nate is in a committed relationship with elena, right?

Imani: [ Scoffs ]

Amanda: Oh, she knows. She just doesn’t care.

Devon: Mm.

Imani: I wouldn’t say that. I’m very concerned and interested in the health and future of their romance.

Amanda: [ Chuckles ] Okay, I think that this might be the perfect time to have a conversation about dating in the workplace.

Imani: [ Laughs ] You have my word — you will never catch us making out in the snack room.

Devon: Oh, that’s good to hear.

Imani: Because the yoga and meditation studio is going to be so much more romantic. With that lighting? Ah!

[ Laughs ] Relax. I’m kidding. I’ll be perfectly professional. But there’s no harm in a little flirting, is there?

[ Doorbell rings ] Oh! I will get that.

[ Exhales sharply ]

[ Door opens ] Nate. Um, we’ve been waiting for you. Welcome aboard.

Billy: Hold on. You don’t want to understand why ashland was in the middle of that car crash?

Lily: No, of course i do.

Billy: You don’t think that victoria deserves justice?

Lily: Look, what happened on that highway was a tragedy. And my heart breaks for sharon and for rey’s family because now they have to live without him, wondering what life would have been like if he were still here.

Billy: Yeah. He was a good guy.

Lily: And, look, if ashland’s responsible for his death, gcpd will be all over it. They just lost one of their own. So, I’m sorry, but this is not your fight. It’s not something for you to obsess over.

Billy: Me? Obsess? I don’t obsess.

Lily: [ Sighs ] Look, just take a breath and think, okay? Because if you try to get involved, the newmans are gonna push you away, and then all that’s gonna do is just wind you up even more. So just let them handle it.

Billy: I have distance. I have perspective. I know the players.

Lily: We have a meeting to get to, a meeting that’s about our future. So please don’t let ashland take one more thing from us.

Billy: You’re right. Okay. You know how I can get.

Lily: Oh, yes, I do.

Billy: I am officially out. Tearing apart ashland locke will officially be left to the newmans.

Victoria: You don’t get to drop that in my lap and just move on. You can’t just say “I love you.” No. I’m sorry. You do not get to dream of asking for my forgiveness. You lied to me and you betrayed me and those wounds are far too fresh and deep for that.

Ashland: I know.

Victoria: You caused this.

Ashland: I’m aware of that. And I wish I could take it all back. No. No. That’s not true. Not all of it. I love you more today than i have ever loved you, despite what’s broken down between us.

Victoria: It didn’t break down! It was never real because of your lies and your greed and your deception.

Ashland: And I’ll take all the blame. I’ll take all your anger, everything you want to throw at me, because, yes, it did begin as a scheme, but, victoria…

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

Ashland: …You have to believe me when I say this — the only real thing in all of this is that at some point i fell I love with you, despite my plan.

Victoria: Stop. Stop saying that.

Ashland: It must be hard for you to be reminded of what we shared. You continue to deny it, to deny that you care. You’re terrified to admit it to yourself. And you’re certainly not gonna admit it to me or to your family. But, victoria, it’s just you and me right now. You can tell me the truth.

Victoria: You want me to say that I still love you. Of course. Of course I still love you. For copd,

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Sharon: [ Sighs, sniffles ]

Adam: Have you gotten it all out? Or do you need to, uh, break some things?

Sharon: [ Laughs ]

Adam: Okay? I’m sure there’s a full tray of cups and saucers around here that you could destroy and smash. Okay? I mean, kiwi?

Sharon: [ Laughs ]

Adam: No? Or overpriced crackers. Hmm? After a breakdown like that, you should eat something. You should replenish your energy and your tear ducts. Hmm?

Sharon: I don’t want any crackers.

[ Box thuds ] Gosh. I haven’t cried like that since the night nick told me.

Adam: Wow. Wow. I’m just thinking if a friend or a patient had told you that they lost a loved one and they hadn’t expressed any emotions, you probably would say something like, “did you think you could hold those feelings in forever?”

Sharon: Oh, would I?

Adam: You got to let it out, okay? So, you could either do that here, with an old friend who would never judge or pity you…

Sharon: Or? What’s my alternative?

Adam: You could cook yourself into an early grave. Nonstop baking of pastries and desserts of all kinds. Um, you know, you could become an angry widow whose coffee is so famously bitter that it brings a ceo to his or her knees.

Sharon: Um, that probably wouldn’t be good for crimson lights’ profits.

[ Sniffles ]

Adam: Seriously. Take some time every couple hours to cry. And remind yourself that rey loved you. And no one is gonna think less of you if we see you shed a few tears. You’re sad. Be sad. And I’ll be around if you change your mind and you want me to come sweep up the pieces because you were smashing some dishes.

Sharon: [ Chuckles ] Thank you.

Adam: After everything we’ve been through, I will always be here when you need me. You can count on that.

Devon: Now, I’m aware this isn’t the most traditional place to hold a meeting.

Amanda: Yes, but until we finish construction on our office spaces, we’re gonna be meeting wherever we can.

Nate: Well, I love the commute from across the hall, so you can tell your crew to take their time.

Devon: Oh, I won’t be doing that. Thanks.

Imani: Gorgeous tie.

Nate: Uh, thank you. It was a gift from elena.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Devon: I’ll get it.

Imani: Well, you wear it impeccably.

[ Door opens ]

Devon: Hey, guys.

Lily: Hi.

Billy: Hey.

Lily: Hey, everyone.

Amanda: Hi! Come in.

Billy: Sorry we’re a little late.

Devon: No, no, don’t apologize. You guys are right on time. How is victoria doing?

Billy: Well, from what i understand, she only suffered minor injuries. But, uh, I’m assuming everyone heard about rey?

Devon: Yeah. I couldn’t believe the news.

Amanda: Yeah, I never will forget how he went above and beyond when I was dealing with ripley.

Nate: It’s just so senseless.

Devon: Well, he was one of the best. It’s a real tragedy.

Victoria: You were right. No matter how hard you wanted to, you just can’t make those feelings go away.

Ashland: So there’s a chance —

Victoria: But…do you know what else that won’t disappear? The pain and the anger and the hurt. They’re battling it out inside my head.

[ Sighs ] And I can’t take it anymore. You know what I really want? I just want to feel normal again.

[ Knock on door ]

Ashland: Maybe we —

Victoria: Come in. Chance.

Chance: If you have a few minutes, I’d like to ask you guys some questions about the case.

Ashland: When you say “case,” as in investigation? I mean, do you think that this was anything other than just a terrible, tragic accident? We hit the bike trails every weekend

Chance: I just have some routine questions about what happened.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] Do you really have to make victoria relive the horrors of that night just so you can close the books on something we know was no one’s fault?

Victoria: I can handle this. Please have a seat.

Chance: Thank you. Okay. Now, if this gets too tough, just let me know, and we can take a break.

Victoria: Okay.

Chance: Now, can you tell me about the events leading up to the crash?

Victoria: Um… I’ll try. Some parts of it are a little cloudy.

Chance: Understandable.

Victoria: I was in the office closing up for the night, and ashland was here. And he left before me. I got into my car, and then i started driving. It was foggy.

Denise: You remember how fast you were going?

Victoria: No, not — not really, but I know that, before the accident, I was on the phone with my mother, and then the next thing that I knew… um…

Ashland: I, uh — I was following victoria that night in my own car. She had had a tough day here at the office, and I wanted to make sure she was okay driving through the fog. We got to that stretch of highway b, and I saw headlights coming straight at us. And I realized they were in our lane. Victoria swerved and went off the road. I reacted too late to avoid contact. Rey and I — our cars made contact. I, um, slammed on the brakes, turned sideways, he ran into me, and I went spinning off the road.

Chance: So, rey stayed in the wrong lane, even after almost hitting victoria? He didn’t try to avoid the collision at all?

Ashland: No. He just kept coming straight at us, never stopping.

Chance: Well, that doesn’t make very much sense. You see, rey had very extensive training in driving in dangerous conditions like this. If he did lose control, I’m sure he could have regained it.

Ashland: I don’t know what to tell you. That’s what happened.

[ Cellphone pings ]

Chance: Excuse me one minute. I have to check this.

Ashland: Of course.

Victoria: Is everything alright?

Chance: Yes, everything is fine. I do have to run, though. So, thank you for your time. If I have any more questions, I’ll be in touch.

Ashland: I hope reliving all of that wasn’t too much for you.

Victoria: I’m alright.

Ashland: You know, recounting that puts everything else into perspective.

Lily: So, what about our official name?

Devon: I’m cool with chancellor-winters, but I am gonna be re-branding lp into hamilton streaming, as a tribute to my mother.

Amanda: That’s wonderful.

Billy: Uh, yeah, that is great. I will let our pr team know. They’re working on a release to announce the newly merged company now.

Nate: Maybe we should throw a huge party for the press, given that this is gonna be massive news.

Imani: I love the sound of that.

Devon: Well, do we want to be that flashy, though, out of the gate? ‘Cause neil — he always loved a good party, but when it came to the company, he was a bit more reserved and buttoned-up.

Nate: Yeah, but the thing about neil was — he believed in tradition, but nobody rolled with the times like he did. And the company’s evolved since the two of you had founded it. Why not make a bold new statement right out of the gate? Show them exactly who we are?

Adam: Ah, I better clear out before one of your entourage shows up and tries to accuse me of stealing a basket or insinuate myself into your grief.

[ Knock on door ]

Sharon: Chance. Hi. Come on in.

Chance: Thank you. Adam. How you doing?

Adam: [ Clears throat ] I, uh, just came by to offer my condolences. I know that, uh, you and rey were close, so I’m sorry that you lost your partner.

Chance: Thanks, man. He was a good friend.

Adam: Let me know if you need anything, okay?

Sharon: Okay. Thanks again. I’d offer you something, but I’m sure you didn’t come back here for the coffee and muffins.

Chance: No. Rey’s autopsy report just came in. I thought you’d want to hear it from me.

Sharon: Hear what?

Chance: The truth about what happened that night. Listen, I’m done settling. Because this is my secret.

Lily: Well, I like the idea of a splashy media push.

Nate: With devon and lily front and center.

Billy: I can’t think of a more dynamic duo.

Devon: Well, let’s talk about that ’cause I don’t really know if I completely agree. I think that since chancellor is the more established company that lily should probably be the one who’s front and center, just ’cause you’re used to being a spokesperson and I don’t really do that kind of thing. I run stuff from the sidelines.

Lily: Well, I didn’t propose this merger so I could fly solo. I mean, this is about us joining forces, you know, coming together as brother and sister, who have deep ties to these corporate entities, ’cause not only are we the children of neil winters, but you — you are the grandson of katherine chancellor. I mean, that’s a huge selling point.

Devon: No, I guess you’re right.

Nate: So many companies are known for their leaders. We need to aim for that with our new entity and our two ceos.

Devon: Yeah. It just feels like everything’s happening very fast.

Lily: Well, look, I get it, right? I mean, we’re finding our footing, you know? We’re finding out who we are. But it’s okay. We can do it because we have clear values, we know who we are, and that’s because of what dad instilled in us. So, I mean, ready or not, we’re gonna be the face of this company.

Amanda: Oh, devon, I think you’re gonna have to get used to being the center of attention.

Lily: Come on, devon. Take a leap of faith.

Devon: [ Chuckles ] Yeah.

Chance: Well, rey’s cause of death… it wasn’t the car crash. He had a heart attack behind the wheel.

Sharon: Oh, my god.

[ Voice breaking ] Poor rey. Um…

[ Sniffles ] Well, what — what were his last moments like?

Chance: All I know is the coroner said that it was very sudden and very fast. Probably didn’t have enough time to feel anything.

Sharon: How could he have a heart attack? He was so young and healthy.

Chance: [ Sighs heavily ] Unfortunately, I don’t have the answer to that. Sometimes these things happen without any warning.

Sharon: [ Sniffles, gasps ] You know, I’ve been… I’ve been saying all the right things, like, “it was an accident,” “it was nobody’s fault,” but secretly I was really angry with victoria and ashland. I just wondered if they weren’t watching the road, if they were being reckless. I — I think I just needed someone to blame.

Chance: I understand why you’d want to put this all on somebody else. I get that. But, sadly, rey’s heart just started beating too fast. There’s no one to blame.

Victoria: Get that back to me as quickly as you can. Thank you.

Ashland: I see you did some redecorating. Makes sense that you would move the portrait I had commissioned.

Victoria: I destroyed it.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ] Of course you did. I always loved that you were so calm and controlled on the outside, but inside an inferno. I remember something else. In the middle of everything that was revealed and all that was falling apart, there was a moment, a moment when I thought that you believed that we could start over. You later claimed that you were lying to manipulate me.

Victoria: I did what was necessary to get you to sign those papers.

Ashland: I don’t believe that. You meant every word of it. You were completely sincere. And then all that noise got in the way. But the moment was real and it was there. You know it and I know it. I am willing to do whatever it takes, whatever you ask to get back to that moment.

Recap written by Christine

At Crimson Lights, Lily kissed Billy hello and asked if he’d heard from Victoria. Victoria wasn’t answering his texts, calls or emails. He was grateful the kids were away at school and didn’t know their mother was in a car accident. Lily thought Victoria needed space. Lily knew what it was like to be involved in a car accident where there was a fatality. It was overwhelming and the pain and guilt never went away. Billy didn’t want to add to Victoria’s burden – he just wanted to understand how it happened and how Ashland was involved. Lily asked why Billy thought Ashland was involved. Billy said Nick told him there was a plan to get Ashland out of the company and Victoria’s life. Billy wondered why Ashland was out there with Victoria, but not in the car with her. Was he following her? Lily said that with Ashland, there was always another lie waiting to be exposed. Billy agreed, and that’s why he thought he and Lily should put their heads together and come up with a way to get Ashland out of town and out of Victoria’s life. Lily said that it wasn’t their job to hold Ashland accountable.

Billy asked if Lily was saying she didn’t care how Ashland was involved in the car crash and didn’t think Victoria deserved justice. Lily said what happened on the highway was a tragedy, and her heart broke for Sharon and Rey’s family. She said the GCPD would investigate the death, so this wasn’t Billy’s fight. She said if he got involved, the Newmans would push him away, and he’d just get more wound up, so he should just let other people handle it. He said he had perspective, distance, and he knew the players. “We have a meeting to get to. A meeting that’s about our future. Please don’t let Ashland take one more thing from us,” Lily said. Billy agreed to stay out of it and leave tearing Ashland apart to the Newmans.

Elena and Nate were at their place snuggled on the couch. After what happened with Rey, she just wanted to spend the day with Nate, making good memories. He said life was short. To help her make a good memory, he leaned in for a kiss. Elena talked to Lola earlier. She said Rey made such a huge impact on people’s lives. Nate wondered if Ashland caused the accident on purpose, either so he could rescue Victoria and be her knight in shining armor, or because he wanted to hurt her, and Rey was collateral damage. He didn’t want to jump to conclusions, but trouble surrounded Ashland.

Elena had a new tie for Nate to commemorate his big day. He was going to be going to his first meeting as a member of the Chancellor-Winters team. She put the tie on him and said she was proud of him. She teased that it was brave of someone as old as he was to leave the medical world for a corporation. He laughed and said he appreciated the tie and her support. He sensed she had some concerns about this. She said it’d just take some getting used to him being an executive and not Dr. Hastings. He said he’d always be Dr. Hastings. She asked if he was sure this was right for him. He was. That made her feel good about it too. They kissed.

Imani was at Amanda and Devon’s. Imani was wearing her good-impression suit. A reminder not to overstep like she did last time. Amanda gave Imani a pass because she’d been excited. Imani was pleased Nate would be at the meeting. Devon reminded Imani that Nate was in a committed relationship. Amanda said Imani knew and didn’t care. Imani clarified that she was very interested in the health and future of Nate’s relationship. Amanda thought this was the time for a conversation about dating in the workplace. Imani said she’d never be caught making out in the snack room – the lighting in the studio was so much more romantic. She assured them she was just kidding. She’d be professional, but she saw no harm in a little flirting. When Nate knocked on the door, Imani made sure she was the one to answer it.

Devon and Amanda explained that they were meeting here because the office spaces weren’t finished. Imani complimented Nate’s tie, and he said it was from Elena. “You wear it impeccably,” Imani said. Lily and Billy arrived. Devon asked Billy how Victoria was, then they all talked about Rey. Amanda would never forget Rey going above and beyond while she was dealing with Ripley. Devon said it was a tragedy, and Nate shifted uncomfortably. Later, they discussed a name for the combined company. Devon was okay with Chancellor-Winters. He was going to rename LP Hamilton Streaming, as a tribute to his mom. Nate suggested they do a press party. Imani agreed. Devon wasn’t sure they should be so flashy out of the gate. He noted that Neil loved a party, but he was more conservative in business. Nate said Neil also grew with the times. He thought they should make a bold new statement right out of the gate.

Lily liked the idea of a splashy party. Nate said Devon and Lily would be front and center. Billy couldn’t think of a more dynamic duo. Devon thought Lily should be front and center since Chancellor was more established, and she was more used to being a spokesperson, while he ran things from the sidelines. She said she didn’t propose the merger to fly solo. She said this was about coming together as brother and sister with deep ties to these companies – they were the children of Neil Winters, and he was the grandson of Katherine Chancellor, which was a huge selling point. Nate said so many companies were known for their leaders, and they needed to aim for that with their new entity and two CEOs. Devon said everything was happening very fast. Lily said they could do this because of what Neil instilled into them – ready or not, they were going to be the face of the company. Amanda told Devon he’d have to get used to being the center of attention.

Victoria was in her office working. The sounds of the car accident and Ashland rescuing her replayed in her mind. At that moment, Ashland showed up. She asked what he was doing here and how he got past security. He’d dodged the guards. She said last time they spoke, he said he was leaving town. He couldn’t go until he knew she was okay, and she was dodging his calls and texts. She said she was fine. He noted that he saw the cane. He wanted an honest answer about how she was doing. “I wouldn’t lie about my health. That’s your area of expertise,” she replied. She asked about his hand and foot. He said the pain was nothing, compared to everything else he felt, but he knew he couldn’t expect sympathy from her. He’d tell her what he told Harrison – he’d be okay. She noted that she hadn’t seen Harrison since Tuscany.

Ashland asked how Victoria was. She just kept replaying the events in her mind – the parts she could remember. She was also asking herself some questions: What if Ashland didn’t follow her that night? Would she have died alone in her car, like Rey? Would the accident have even happened? If she’d never met Ashland, would Rey be home with his family right now? Ashland kept playing events in his mind too. She asked if he meant the crash, and he said no. He kept thinking about things from before the crash and stuff he should’ve said and done differently. He wished she could understand that he’d always love her. He kept hoping there would be one true perfect moment where she forgave him.

Victoria told Ashland he didn’t get to say he loved her or dream of getting her forgiveness. “you lied to me and you betrayed me and those wounds are too fresh and too deep for that,” she stated. He knew. He wished he could take it all back, except falling in love with her. He loved her more today than he did before, despite all that had broken down between them. She said that their relationship didn’t break down – it was never real in the first place, due to his lies, greed and deception. He accepted her anger, because this did begin as a scheme, but he fell in love with her despite his plan. She told him to stop saying that. He contended that she was terrified to admit she still cared. He told her she could tell him the truth. She was crying. “Of course I still love you,” she admitted.

Victoria said she couldn’t make the feelings go away, no matter how hard she tried. Ashland looked hopeful, but Victoria continued. She said that the pain and anger and hurt wouldn’t disappear either. All her feelings were battling it out, and she couldn’t take it. She just wanted one thing. Before she could say more, Chance showed up with questions about the case. Ashland didn’t like the idea of making Victoria relive the horrors of that night, just to close the books on an accident that no one caused. Victoria said she could handle it. Chance assured Victoria that they could take a break if things got too tough. He wanted to hear about that night. She said that she left work, and Ashland left before her. It was foggy. She wasn’t sure how fast she was going. She was on the phone with her mom, and the next thing she knew… Ashland took over from there. He said he was following Victoria to make sure she got home safe after a tough day at the office. He saw headlights coming at them. Victoria swerved to avoid them, and Ashland tried to, but he got hit in the side. Chance asked Ashland if he was saying that Rey stayed in the wrong lane and made no attempt to avoid the collision. Ashland confirmed it. Chance didn’t think that made sense, because Rey had extensive training driving in dangerous conditions, and if he lost control, he should’ve been able to regain it. Ashland maintained that Rey never regained control. Chance got a text, and he excused himself and left.

Ashland said recounting the events of that night put everything in perspective. Victoria finished a business call. Ashland thought it made sense Victoria removed the painting he had commissioned. She said she destroyed it. He wasn’t surprised. He’d always loved how she was calm and controlled on the outside and an inferno inside. He wanted to talk about the moment where she made him believe they could leave town and start over, then later claimed she’d been lying. She said she did what was necessary to get him to sign the papers. He didn’t believe that. “You meant every word of it. You were completely sincere. And then all that noise got in the way,” he said. He was willing to do whatever it took to get back to that moment. He left. She sighed and looked upward.

At the cottage, Sharon picked up one of Rey’s boots. Someone knocked on the door, and she wiped her eyes and answered the door. It was Adam. He said he was so sorry. He was also sorry he didn’t come earlier. He didn’t want to cause her any stress with her family, so he waited until the coast was clear and she was alone. She supposed she’d better get used to being alone, since that was her life now. Adam made Sharon a fresh pot of coffee. She told him he didn’t have to do that. Someone sent her a lot of coffee. She sadly smiled about someone bringing coffee to a coffeehouse owner. An owner of a diner where Rey used to go when he was working late brought it by. Adam asked how Sharon was coping. She said she was hanging in there. Eventually, she’d come to terms with this and start to heal, she said. He told her that they could skip the platitudes, because that wasn’t who they were to each other. He wanted to know how she really felt. She broke down crying.

Sharon was tired of people treating her like she was porcelain and speaking to her in whispers, asking if she was capable of doing the things she wanted to do. He said he’d never question her strength. She was crushed, angry and gutted. She asked why a worthless piece of filth like Ashland, who faked cancer and contributed nothing of value to the world was still alive. A man who was so good and meant to much to so many was gone. Adam said Rey helped Connor through a tough time. Sharon said her husband had a way of bringing out the best in people. “I was a different me when I was with Rey,” she said. Rey loved her with all his heart, and he loved her family. Nobody knew all the things Rey did for Sharon when she was sick. Rey knew people were flawed and he forgave all her mistakes, not the least of which was the time Adam kissed her. Rey forgave the woman who poisoned him. She said Rey was kind and generous, and he didn’t deserve to have his life end this way. Adam hugged Sharon, and she held onto him.

Adam asked if Sharon got it all out, or if she needed to break some stuff. He was sure there were plenty of dishes for her to smash. It made her laugh. He picked up some crackers and said she should eat to replenish her energy and tear ducts. She smiled and playfully grabbed the crackers. She admitted she hadn’t cried like that since Nick told her. Adam knew that if one of Sharon’s patients had said they were holding their emotions in after a death, she’d tell them that they had to let their feelings out. He said she could do that with an old friend who’d never judge her or pity her. She asked what the alternative was. He said she could cook herself into an early grave, or become an angry widow who made famously bitter coffee. It made her smile, and she said that probably wouldn’t be good for the coffeehouse. He turned serious and said to take a few hours to remind herself that Rey loved her. He promised no one would think less of her for shedding a few tears. He said he’d always be there when she needed him.

Adam said he should leave before Sharon’s entourage showed up and accused him of stealing a basket or trying to insinuate himself into her grief. Chance showed up. Adam was sorry Chance lost his partner. Adam told Sharon to let him know if she needed anything, and he left. Chance was here to deliver information from Rey’s autopsy report. Rey wasn’t killed in the car crash. He had a heart attack. Sharon was shocked and cried. She asked what her husband’s last moments were like. All Chance knew was that the coroner said it was very sudden, and Rey probably never had enough time to feel anything. Sharon didn’t understand how a healthy young man like Rey could have a heart attack. Chance said sometimes these things happened without warning. Sharon admitted that, while she’d been saying that no one was to blame, she’d secretly been very angry with Victoria and Ashland and wondering if they were driving recklessly. She thought she’d just needed someone to blame. Chance understood that, but he said Rey’s heart just started beating too fast, and there was no one to blame.

Phyllis: Hey, what are you doing here?

Amanda: Hello. I have a chipped nail. I was hoping that one of your wonderful manicurists can repair it for me.

Phyllis: Oh, definitely, definitely.

Amanda: Thank you.

Phyllis: We’ll make room for you. It’s been a while.

Amanda: Yeah, it has been. Work has been keeping me pretty busy. Turns out that merging two large corporations is quite challenging from a legal standpoint. Who’d have known?

Phyllis: And all the personalities involved — ooh, that can be complicated, right?

Amanda: Surprisingly, no. Lily and devon, they agree on most of the important things, and nate, he is excited to join the family business, and I’m thrilled, too, because I get to work with imani and it feels like a family business for me, too.

Phyllis: So no complications, everybody’s happy?

Amanda: Yeah.

Phyllis: Good for you. Wow, I’d like for once to not experience family drama like that.

Amanda: Okay, I’ll bite. Is this about the newmans, the abbotts, or none of the above?

Phyllis: It’s the abbotts this time. Jack.

Kyle: Dad, this is impossible. I know you wouldn’t lie or joke about something like this, but my mother isn’t alive. She was murdered, for god’s sakes.

Jack: I understand that you’re shocked by this. I was every bit as stunned as you are.

Kyle: No, no, no, whatever you were told, it can’t be true. I…I vividly remember her funeral. We — we…we buried her. It was heartbreaking.

Jack: Diane wasn’t in the coffin. If I had known that, I could have spared you so much pain.

Kyle: Okay, okay, okay. If…if she is alive…where has she been all these years? Was she held against her will by — by — by one of the people that wanted her dead?

Jack: No. No, we all thought she was dead because that’s what she wanted us to think. Your mother faked this entire thing, and she has been staying away by choice.

Diane: [ Groans ] Look at me. All cooped up in here like a prisoner in a gilded cage. Oh! I’m going insane. Okay, okay. I’ve got to get out of here. There’s no harm in me taking a walk and grabbing a cup of coffee, is there?

Mariah: Um, do you — do you want to invite your roadies to the wedding?

Tessa: Huh?

Mariah: From your — from your tour. Do — do you invite them?

Tessa: Uh…I don’t know. What’s our head count?

Mariah: I don’t remember.

Elena: Hey.

Mariah: Hi.

Elena: I just heard the horrible news. I’m so sorry.

Mariah: Yeah, thank you. Yeah, we are still shell-shocked, obviously.

Elena: How’s sharon holding up?

Mariah: I honestly wish i could answer that, I just — i don’t know. You know, she’s trying to stay in control, and she’s putting on this whole façade. And I’m just scared it’s gonna come crashing down.

Sharon: Where did I leave that wedding-planning folder?

Jack: I know this is hard to comprehend.

Kyle: What has my mother been doing all this time?

Jack: That is a long and complicated story.

Kyle: Okay, well, let’s start with the highlights, like why did she pretend to be dead?

[ Knock on door ] Don’t tell me. Is that her?

Jack: It damn well better not be. Your heart is at the heart of everything you do.

Amanda: You know, every time I talk to you, your mind always seems to be on jack. Okay, so what’s going on? What’s going on with him and his family?

Phyllis: I can’t tell you. And it’s so complicated and it’s so personal. Kyle’s in town.

Amanda: Okay, well, that’s good, right?

Phyllis: It’s not good. The reason he’s in town is because jack needs to tell him some big news.

Amanda: Does this have anything to do with the son who passed away?

Phyllis: That’s how it started, yeah.

[ Sighs ] Amanda, there’s a person in town from kyle’s past… from our past. This person can create so much danger for kyle, for jack, for so many people in this town.

Amanda: Including you?

Jack: Ashland, um…come in.

Ashland: Hello, kyle. I’m sorry to just show up like this. In fact, I ran into phyllis earlier, and she said I should wait until you reach out to me, and I know that harrison’s probably very tired from the trip, but, um, on the off chance that he’s awake, I would love to see him.

Kyle: Uh…are — are you alright? What happened?

Ashland: Um…

Rey: What we have is more than just physical attraction. I meant what I said before. I love you.

[ Sighs ] I have lived with lies for way too many years. So please just — just tell me. Do you feel the same way?

Sharon: You know that I do.

Rey: I need to hear it.

Sharon: I love you, too.

Rey: Ha ha! You got it? You got it?

Sharon: I got it.

Rey: Whoo! There we go.

Sharon: Whoo!

[ Chuckles ]

Rey: Happy new year, mrs. Rosales.

Rey: Well, it feels like we haven’t traveled more than a couple feet since our wedding, since it happened right over there.

Sharon: Yeah, that was a magical night.

Rey: It was. And our love grows stronger with each passing day.

Sharon: I agree. And I have very high hopes for 2022, also.

Rey: Mm, I don’t know, i can’t imagine being happier than I am right now.

Noah: Mom? Mom.

Sharon: Oh. Oh, noah, I thought I was home alone.

Noah: I was up in my room.

Nick: Everything alright?

Sharon: No, no, everything’s definitely not alright. Faith, what are you doing out of school?

Elena: Oh, my heart goes out to sharon. I can’t even imagine how difficult this must be for her.

Mariah: Yeah, I mean, it’S… it’s just crazy, you know. I keep looking over there, expecting him to walk through those doors like he always does. And he was such a rock. And not just for my mom, but for the whole family. And now my mom feels like she has to be that rock…and that that’s what rey would expect of her, and he wouldn’t want her falling apart, so…

Elena: He was such a pillar and protector of this entire community. Everyone’s devastated by his loss. I’m sorry, am I interrupting your wedding planning?

Mariah: Oh, no, um…we’re just waiting for my mom before we get too deep into our preparations.

Elena: Are you guys still going forward in spite of everything?

Tessa: Sharon’s insisting on it.

Elena: I mean, I could see where she’s coming from. I think we all need a little happiness to focus on and a reminder that life still goes on.

Tessa: Where’s justin?

Mariah: I — I don’t know. Things have been so crazy around here. I’ll go handle it. Hi, sorry to keep you waiting. What can I do for you? I’m steve.

Phyllis: This person who’s in town is not a match for me. She knows it.

Amanda: Oh. So this mysterious individual is a woman.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm.

Amanda: Is it jack’s ex?

Phyllis: Among other things, yes.

Amanda: So are you concerned that she might want to get back together with him?

Phyllis: No, because that would never happen. Jack gets it, and if she even tried, I would take her out.

Amanda: Because you’re trying to protect your good friend jack. It has nothing to do with your hopes that you two might find your way back to each other.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] I’ve told you a million times that there’s nothing going on between me and jack. I mean, it is strictly platonic.

Amanda: Okay, then why? Why are you so concerned that this woman is back in his life?

Mariah: I’m so sorry for the delay. We had a death in the family, so everything’s been a little disrupted.

Diane: I’m so sorry to hear that. What — what happened?

Mariah: A car accident.

Diane: Really? Was it one of the owners? Or who — who owns this place anyway?

Mariah: Sharon rosales. It was her husband.

Diane: Did she used to go by sharon newman?

Mariah: Uh, yeah, she did. Have I seen you in here before?

Diane: Um…it’s — it’s — it’s been a while.

Mariah: Okay.

Diane: Thanks. Ohh.

Faith: I’m sorry, mom. I didn’t mean to upset you. Sitting through school was just too tough.

Nick: The principal said it’d be okay if she skipped the rest of the day. I didn’t think it’d be a problem.

Sharon: Oh, I’m so sorry you had to go through that. You know, this has been a really tough time for everyone, but you’ve missed so much school this past year already.

Faith: It’s fine, mom. I’m a second-semester senior. I’m just waiting for my college acceptance letters to start coming in. The rest of the year is basically coasting. But today, I just want to be with my family.

Sharon: I understand. You’re right. Sometimes family is more important than anything. And rey knew that more than anyone.

[ Sighs ] I’m just so grateful that you’re all here with me. It means everything.

Nick: We are all here for you.

Noah: And for each other.

With age comes more…

Noah: Mom, I know you didn’t get much sleep last night, so why don’t you just relax today? Take a nap. We can handle things at the coffee house.

Faith: Yeah, we’ll even have dinner ready for when you get up.

Sharon: No, no, that’s not necessary. Um…besides, I have to meet with mariah and tessa there about wedding plans. I just want to make sure they’re not hedging on the date.

Noah: You don’t have to worry about that. I know for a fact they’re pretty determined to move forward now, so there’s really no need for you to check on them.

Sharon: No, that’s actually all the more reason why I do need to take the meeting, because we’ve got a lot to plan in a little time, and, yeah, if we want to put this wedding together, it’s less than a month.

Nick: Well, I can drive you.

Sharon: Oh, thank you, but that’s alright. Think I can manage myself.

Nick: Well, actually, mariah asked me to stop by the coffee house too. She wanted to talk to me about something regarding the wedding. Do any of you know what that’s about?

Jack: Kyle, I’m trying very hard to answer your questions without letting my personal feelings get in the way. But it’s not easy because i think you deserve to know the truth.

Kyle: I do. That’s right, and I am counting on you to be straight with me.

Jack: Diane claims she conceived this entire deception to get away from the bad things she had done to seemingly everyone in this town.

Kyle: That makes no sense. Does she not think letting her son believe his mother was dead was a bad thing? And not just dead, murdered.

Jack: She claims that she hit a horribly low point, and she saw no way out but to start fresh, to start over.

Kyle: So why come back now? Hmm? Why leave her fabulous, fresh new life for the son she… literally ghosted all those years ago?

Jack: She claims it took her all these years to finally feel that she was ready to face what she had done.

Kyle: I missed her so much. All this time without her. All these memories that I wanted to share with her, and — and I find out she could’ve been there. And you’re telling me she chose not to, and suddenly she wants to make up for lost time?

Jack: Kyle, I wish there was something I could say to take away all this pain.

Kyle: I can’t even begin to process my emotions yet, so let’s just — let’s just stick to the facts, dad. Tell me exactly what happened. She, what, anonymously lured… she lured you to finding out about keemo’s death and his daughter as a — an olive branch? No. The hope that she might get a shot at forgiveness?

Jack: Her method was devious, yes, that’s typical diane. But the truth is, if she had come to me directly, I would have shut her down instantly. No, she waited till allie and i were together to reveal that she was the person that orchestrated this entire thing.

Kyle: And she did all this to what? To soften you up so you could smooth the way to get to me? Was that the idea, dad?

Jack: Yeah. I’m supposed to help the two of you reunite. But, kyle, you are under no obligation to accept her overture. You don’t have to do anything. You can take harrison and get right back on that jet and go back to your wonderful life in milan.

Kyle: Yeah. You know, part of me wishes you never even told me.

Jack: Kyle, that was my first instinct. But phyllis helped me realize it’s not my call, and she’s right. This is up to you, son.

Phyllis: My concerns with this woman have very, very little to do with her being jack’s ex.

Amanda: Well, then what is the problem? Why is she a threat to him?

Phyllis: Because…I know her. And I know what she does. She takes somebody’s weaknesses, their vulnerabilities, and she ma– I don’t want to talk your ear off. Come on, let’s go. I’ll set you up in the salon, and do your manicure.

Amanda: I would love to keep listening.

Phyllis: No, you’ve been such a good friend. We’ll talk later, okay? I don’t want to talk your ear off. Just go relax, have fun.

Amanda: Okay. Alright, thank you.

Phyllis: No, thank you.

Diane: Thank you.

Phyllis: What are you doing out of your room? We had an understanding.

Elena: Sharon, my heart broke when I heard the news. Rey was a wonderful man.

Sharon: He really was.

Elena: You know, when lola and I were roommates, he would always stop by the apartment to fix things and always with a smile. I think that’s what I’ll remember about him most.

Sharon: Me too.

Elena: Yeah, you know, if you ever need anything at all, even just to talk, please don’t hesitate.

Sharon: Thanks.

Elena: Okay, well, I’m gonna head to work, but promise me you’ll reach out if you need to.

Sharon: I will. Okay. So where do things stand with the wedding?

Mariah: Mom, do you really want to talk about all of this right now?

Tessa: We totally understand if you just want to wait a day or two.

Sharon: Would you please stop babying me? I don’t know how many times i have to tell you, I need this. What more do I have to do to convince you? (Cyclist) why is ice t in a speed walking crew?

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Mariah: Mom, we’re sorry.

Tessa: We were just trying to be sensitive.

Mariah: And we can’t help but be worried about you.

Sharon: Look, um…I’ll probably be up and down and all over the place these next few weeks. I don’t know when or if the grief and the shock is gonna bulldoze over me. But I can’t sit around, worrying about it. I — I have a life to lead. There are people who count on me. I have things to do, you know? I’ve got errands and order paper towels. I…I… I really need to grab on to whatever I can to stay afloat, and your wedding is just one of those life rafts. So please don’t take that away from me.

Mariah: Yeah, we get it. We really do, and this wedding is gonna be the perfect port in this storm, so, you know, let’s just move forward and no more interruptions or hesitations, okay?

Tessa: Yeah, okay, let’s make this wedding happen.

Mariah: Yeah.

Nick: Yep, I’m all in.

Sharon: Great. What’s next on the agenda?

Tessa: Well, I think I know where to start, and it’s a — it’s a pretty big ask.

Kyle: I need to phone summer before I make any decisions.

Jack: I completely understand.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] Where is my mother now? Is she here in town?

Jack: Unfortunately, yes. I asked her to keep her distance, but in classic diane fashion, she rejected my wish and flew to genoa city and now has a suite at the grand phoenix.

Kyle: Why? Why would she do that?

Jack: She claims she wanted to be close so that she could make her own case in the event that you took off for italy without meeting with her. I guess I should be grateful that she didn’t jump the gun and tell you herself. At least she let me break the news.

Kyle: You know, for years, years, I heard the whispers and rumors about my mother. And some people came right out and trashed her to my face. But in spite of all that, i still tried to believe the best in her. My recollections of her, they’re all loving and fun. For years, it was just the two of us. She used to call me her little hero.

Jack: I’m glad that you were able to hold on to those positive memories.

Kyle: She was a good mom. Always cheering me on in hockey and life. But a good person doesn’t deliberately put their own son through hell. Dad, be honest with me. Is there anything that I don’t know about my mother? Have you told me everything?

Jack: Kyle, the last thing i ever wanted to do was destroy your love for your mother. I thought it best that you always see the good in her, that it would somehow ease the pain of losing your mother at such a young age. And, yes, there are probably many things that you don’t know about her, and you don’t need to know.

Kyle: Well, I read that exposé about her in

restless style all those years ago.

Jack: Kyle, you were a child. And the magazine didn’t cover all of it. She did unforgivable things long after that was published. But now she says there is a reason she did all of those things. And she wants a chance to explain them to you, if you’ll just hear her out.

Kyle: Is she really as bad as so many people think?

Jack: The simple answer is yes. And I struggle to believe that she has transformed herself quite as dramatically as she says. Son, I wish you were not going through this. A part of wishes that she had just stayed dead. It would’ve been easier for all of us, and you could’ve held on to the few good memories you have. But she’s not dead, kyle. She’s here. And she’s not gonna let this go. So you have to decide one way or the other.

Phyllis: I thought jack and i seared into your brain that leaving the room was a bad idea.

Diane: Just leave me alone, phyllis. I don’t want to talk about any of this. I just want to go up to my suite.

Faith: I can’t believe rey is gone. Why did this have to happen?

Noah: Hey. Life can be really unfair sometimes.

Faith: I’m so glad you’re here with us. We all need you. Especially mom. I don’t know why she’s pushing so hard and rushing things. We all know how hurt she must be inside. I mean, why won’t she just let it all out?

Noah: Maybe she just needs to keep busy right now. You know, I don’t think she wants us to see her broken down, so that’s her choice to make.

Faith: But we all want to help her.

Noah: I know. But it’s her pain. And she has to feel it and express it however she needs to. And if this is what gets her through the next few weeks, who’s to say it’s not right?

Faith: Yeah.

Tessa: Sharon, I know you and I haven’t always seen eye-to-eye on everything.

Sharon: Well, that’s all ancient history now. We’ve gotten far beyond that.

Tessa: Absolutely. We’ve done so much more than move past our issues. We’ve actually bonded, and you’ve become a true friend and a source of support for me.

Sharon: I feel the same way.

Tessa: Well, I’m really glad to hear you say that because, as much as I would love crystal to be my maid of honor, her legal issues might prevent her from even coming to the wedding, and my family’s out of the picture. So I was wondering if you would stand in for my family and walk me down the aisle.

Sharon: Of course. I’d be honored. And as far as I’m concerned, you are already family.

Jack: Well, I have an update.

Phyllis: Okay. I can tell by your face you told kyle.

Jack: Kyle knows the truth, or as much of the truth as diane deigned to share with us.

Phyllis: Okay. Well, I’m glad you got to him. It was almost too late.

Jack: What do you mean?

Phyllis: Diane snuck out of her room again.

Jack: Oh, god, that woman is shameless.

Phyllis: Don’t worry about it. I took care of it. But she doesn’t that kyle is in town. We’re just buying time now.

Jack: It doesn’t matter what we say to her, what we do to her, she’s always gonna be a wild card.

Phyllis: Unless…

Jack: Unless what?

Phyllis: Unless kyle decided not to see his mother. I mean, what did he say? How did he take the news?

Jack: He was completely blind-sided and hurt by the whole thing.

Phyllis: Okay, what do you think he’s gonna do?

Kyle: Hi, summer. Um…given the time difference, you’re probably wrapping up your dinner meeting. Uh…hey, there’s something i need to talk to you about. Can you call me back when you’re free? Love you.

Traci: Kyle? Kyle, honey, oh.

Kyle: Aunt traci, hi.

Traci: Hello! Oh, I’m so glad to see you. Your dad said you were coming home, but I didn’t know you were here already. Um…so the two of you have talked?

Kyle: I’m still reeling from what he told me.

Traci: We’re all in shock by the news of diane and, um…

Kyle: I’m not sure how to process it all.

Traci: Alright, well, usually, when there’s a problem you need to face, it’s a good idea to maybe talk it through with someone you trust.

Kyle: I tried calling summer and got her voicemail.

Traci: Oh. [ Chuckles ] Well, I could be a close second, you know? You can always tell me anything.

Kyle: I don’t even know where to begin.

And it’s easier than ever to get

your projects done right .

Sharon: Just think how proud I’ll be with my beautiful daughter and daughter-in-law on my arm.

Mariah: Well, I love you, but I actually had another idea. So, nick…I know that you’re not actually my dad, but you’ve been an amazing person in my life, and you’ve loved me like a daughter. And I know what an amazing father you were to my sister, so I was hoping that you could do for me what you couldn’t do for her. So would you walk me down the aisle?

Nick: I’d be honored to do that.

Mariah: [ Laughs ]

Jack: To tell you the truth, I don’t know which way kyle’s gonna go where his mother’s concerned. He needs to absorb this, he needs time to think it through, to talk to summer.

Phyllis: Right, well, at least he’s not running into his mother’s open arms, and that’s good. He’s smart.

Jack: I can’t just overlook the fact that he — he did love her very much. He knew she had issues, but he still thought the world of her. That’s why I tried so hard to protect him from so much of the truth.

Phyllis: Do you regret that now?

Jack: Yeah, I don’t know. Maybe I protected him for too long. I always wanted him to be able to hold onto his cherished memories of his mother at her best, not spend his whole life haunted by her crimes. Today, kyle came right out and asked me if his mother was — is — as bad as everyone said, and, god help me, I could not bring myself to condemn her completely in his eyes.

Phyllis: Alright, well, you didn’t want to pile it on. I understand that. It won’t matter, jack. When everyone in town realizes, “hey, she’s still alive,” they’ll think she’s more wretched than they thought before. That she faked her own death? If she wants absolution, she’s never gonna get it.

Jack: I really don’t care how everyone else is going to react. Right now, I care what this is going to do to kyle.

Traci: Diane’s behavior has been outrageous and cruel. And as a mother, I can’t imagine walking away from your precious child like that.

Kyle: No way in hell I’d ever do that to harrison.

Traci: No, of course not. So I guess the big question is, setting all of that aside, now that you know that she’s alive, do you want to see her?

Kyle: Part of me never wants to see her face again. And then, on the other hand, I remember her being this incredible mom to me. But there’s still so much about her that I don’t know, and she’s this complicated person and i can’t seem to get past the biggest question of all.

Traci: What’s that, honey?

Kyle: How could she let me believe she was dead? I don’t know, aunt traci. What am I gonna do?

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Recap written by Christine

Kyle and Jack were at the Abbott house. While Kyle knew Jack wouldn’t lie or joke about this, he was also just as certain that his mother was dead. Murdered. He had vivid memories of the heartbreaking funeral. Jack said Diane wasn’t in the coffin – he wished he’d known so he could’ve spared Kyle the pain. Kyle became open to the idea of Diane being alive, and he asked if she’d been held captive by one of the people who wanted her dead. Jack explained that Diane faked her death and stayed away by choice. Kyle asked what his mother had been doing all this time. The doorbell rang, and Kyle asked if it was Diane. Jack said it better not be. It was Ashland. He was sorry to show up like this, and Phyllis told him to wait until Kyle reached out. However, he’d love to see Harrison. Kyle saw Ashland’s medical boot and bandaged hand and asked if he was okay.

Harrison entered and hugged Ashland. “Father, you have two big ouchies,” Harrison observed. Ashland said he was in an accident, but he’d be okay. Ashland started crying, and he asked if he could take Harrison on a short outing. Jack thought that was a lovely idea, since he also needed some time with Kyle. Kyle told Harrison to be good, and Ashland took the boy and left. Kyle said he was new to parenthood, but he had a hard time saying goodbye to his son for any length of time. He asked how his mother disappeared all those years.

Jack was trying hard to answer Kyle’s questions without letting his personal feelings get in the way, but it was hard because he felt Kyle deserved the truth. Kyle said he was counting on Jack to be straight with him. Jack said Diane claimed she concocted this plan to get away from the bad things she’d done to nearly everyone in town. Kyle didn’t think that made sense. He asked if she didn’t think it was bad to let her son think she was murdered. Jack explained that Diane said she hit a low point and saw no way out but to start fresh. Kyle asked why Diane left her new life to reach out to the son she literally ghosted. Jack said Diane claimed it took her all these years to finally face what she was done. Kyle had missed Diane so much – there had been so many things he’d wanted to share with her, and now he found out she could’ve been there, and she chose not to, and now she was back and wanting to reconnect. Jack wished he could take away Kyle’s pain. Kyle couldn’t process his emotions now. He wanted to just stick to the facts.

Kyle was disgusted that Diane anonymously lured Jack into finding about Keemo’s death and his daughter as an olive branch. Jack said Diane’s methods were devious, which was typical for her, but in truth, if she’d just come to Jack directly, he would’ve shut her down instantly. Diane had waited until Jack was with Allie to reveal herself. Kyle was near tears over Diane. Jack said that Kyle could take Harrison and go back to Milan – he was under no obligation to see Diane. Part of Kyle wished Jack never told him. Jack said that was his first instinct, but Phyllis helped him realize this wasn’t his call. Kyle needed to phone Summer before he made any decisions.

Kyle asked where his mother was. Jack said he’d told Diane to keep her distance, but in classic Diane fashion, she moved to Genoa City. Kyle was dismayed and asked why. Jack said Diane claimed she wanted to be close so she could make her own claim on the chance that Kyle left for Milan without seeing her. Jack guessed he should be grateful that Diane let him be the one to break the news to Kyle. Kyle said that he’d heard the whispers about his mother for years. Some people trashed her to his face. Despite that, he still tried to believe the best of his mother. All his memories of his mom were loving and fun. For years it was just the two of them, and she used to call him her little hero. Jack was glad Kyle had good memories. Kyle said Diane was a good mom, but a good person didn’t deliberately put their son through hell. Kyle asked if there were things about his mother that he didn’t know. Jack never wanted to destroy Kyle’s love for his mother – he’d thought it best that Kyle always saw the good in Diane. Jack said there were things Kyle probably didn’t know, and he didn’t need to. Kyle remembered reading the Restless Style article about Diane. Jack said Kyle was a child back then, and Diane did several unforgivable things long after that article was published. Jack said Diane was saying there was a reason she did those things, and she wanted Kyle to hear her out. Kyle asked if Diane was as bad as people said. “The simple answer is yes,” Jack stated. Jack had a hard time believing Diane had truly had this dramatic transformation. Jack wished Kyle didn’t have to go through this. Part of Jack wished Diane had just stayed dead, so Kyle could’ve held onto the few good memories he had, but she wasn’t dead, and she wasn’t going to let this go.

Diane paced around her suite and said she was cooped up like a prisoner in a gilded cage. She grabbed her hat and sunglasses and left.

At Crimson Lights, Mariah asked if Tessa wanted to invite her roadies to the wedding. Tessa didn’t know. It was clear their minds were elsewhere. Elena came in and hugged Mariah and asked about Sharon. Mariah said Sharon was putting up a facade that Mariah worried was going to come crashing down. Mariah kept expecting Rey to walk into Crimson Lights. He’d been a rock for the whole family, and now Sharon thought she needed to be that rock. Elena said Rey was a protector of the entire community, and everyone was devastated by his loss. Elena noticed the wedding planning stuff. Tessa said Sharon wanted it to go forward. Elena understood. She thought everyone could use a celebration and a reminder that life went on.

Diane walked into the coffeehouse, and there was no barista there, so Mariah served her. Mariah explained that things were a little out of order because there was a death in the family. Diane asked who died and who owned the place. Mariah said it was Sharon Rosales’ husband. Diane asked if she was once known as Sharon Newman, and Mariah said yes. Mariah asked if she’d seen Diane here before. Diane said it had been awhile. She took her coffee over to the sugar and cream station, then for some reason, she got shaken up and rushed out.

Amanda went to The Grand Phoenix for a manicure to repair a chipped nail. Phyllis noted that it’d been awhile. Amanda said the merger was keeping her busy. It was challenging from a legal standpoint. Phyllis assumed managing the different personalities was also a challenge, but Amanda said that Lily and Devon agreed on most of the important things. Nate was excited to join the family business, and Amanda was thrilled she got to work with Devon, so it felt like a family business to her too. Phyllis wished she wasn’t dealing with family drama. It was about Jack. Amanda said every time she talked to Phyllis, her mind seemed to be on Jack. She asked what was going on. Phyllis couldn’t say. She stated that there was a person in town who could create so much danger for Kyle, Jack and so many others in town.

Amanda surmised that this person was a danger to Phyllis too. Phyllis said this person knew she was no match for Phyllis. Amanda asked if it was Jack’s ex, and Phyllis said yes, among other things. Amanda asked if Phyllis was concerned this ex would want Jack back. Phyllis said Jack would never do that, and if this woman tried, Phyllis would take her out. Amanda suggested Phyllis wanted Jack for herself. Phyllis reiterated that she and Jack were platonic, and she noted that she’d already told Amanda this a million times. Amanda asked why Phyllis was so concerned about his ex’s return. Phyllis’s concerns had very little to do with the fact that this was Jack’s ex. She said this woman took people’s weaknesses and manipulated them. Phyllis noticed Diane walk back in, and she hurried Amanda off to the manicurist. Once they were alone, Phyllis confronted Diane about leaving her room.

Diane didn’t want to talk. She just wanted to go back to her suite. Phyllis asked why Diane was so rattled – who did she see? Diane said no one recognized her. She saw nothing but a bunch of old memories. She got into the elevator. “Reconsider being dead!,” Phyllis spat at the closing doors. Jack showed up and told Phyllis that Kyle knew the truth. Phyllis revealed that Diane snuck out of her room again. Jack said it didn’t matter what they said or did to Diane – she would always be a wildcard. Phyllis asked what Jack thought Kyle would do. He didn’t know. Phyllis was pleased that Kyle wasn’t just running into Diane’s open arms. “He did love her very much. He knew she had issues, but he still thought the world of her,” Jack said. He wondered if he protected Kyle from the truth about Diane for too long. Jack had wanted Kyle to hold onto the cherished memories of his mother, not spend his whole life haunted by her crimes. Jack said Kyle asked if Diane was as bad as everyone said, and Jack hadn’t been able to bring himself to condemn her completely. Phyllis said that once everyone in town found out Diane was alive, they’d think she was even more wretched than before. Jack didn’t care about how everyone else would react – he only cared about Kyle.

Kyle went to Society and he called Summer and left her a message. He didn’t go into detail. He assumed she was still at her dinner meeting. Traci ran into him, and they hugged. He told his aunt he was having a hard time processing things. She said that talking to someone you trust could help. He called Summer, but she didn’t answer. Traci offered to fill in. Traci said Diane’s behavior had been outrageous and cruel. As a mother, Traci couldn’t imagine walking away from your precious child. Kyle said he’d never do that to Harrison. Part of Kyle never wanted to see Diane again, but on the other hand, he remembered her being an incredible mom to him. There was so much about Diane that Kyle didn’t know. He didn’t understand how she let him believe she was dead. He didn’t know what to do.

Sharon was at the cottage, which was filled with sympathy baskets and flowers. She was looking for the wedding planning folder, and she found a post-it from Rey saying he’d bought more paper towels. She started crying. She flashed back to the early days with Rey. He’d told her he loved her, and he asked if she felt the same way. She said she loved him too. She remembered their wedding night and their first anniversary. Sharon had told Rey she had high hopes for 2022, and Rey said he couldn’t imagine being happier. Noah came downstairs at the same time Faith and Nick came in.

Sharon admitted she thought she was alone. She demanded to know what Faith was doing out of school. Faith was sorry to upset Sharon, but school was rough, so she asked to leave. Nick added that the principal said it was okay. Sharon softened. She was sorry Faith had to go through that. Sharon noted that Faith already missed a lot of school this past year, though. Faith said she was a second semester senior who already applied to college, so the rest of the school year was basically coasting. She just wanted to be with her family. Sharon agreed and said sometimes family was more important than anything, which Rey knew. Sharon was grateful they were all here with her.

Noah suggested Sharon nap while they handled the coffeehouse and dinner. Sharon had plans with Mariah and Tessa. She wanted to make sure they wouldn’t postpone. Noah knew they were moving ahead as planned. Sharon said that was all the more reason for her to go, since they had a lot of things to get done in a short amount of time. The wedding was less than a month away. Sharon was going to go to Crimson Lights alone, but Nick needed to go too because Mariah had something she wanted to ask him.

Elena gave Sharon her condolences on Rey. When she and Lola were roommates, Rey used to stop by the apartment and fix things, and he was always smiling. Elena would remember that. She offered to be there if Sharon needed anything. Sharon said thanks, and Elena left for work. Sharon wanted to get to the wedding. Mariah and Tessa suggested Sharon might want to take a couple days off planning. “Please stop babying me,” Sharon stated. Sharon didn’t know how many times she had to tell them that she needed this. Mariah and Tessa were apologetic, but they were worried about Sharon. Sharon said she’d probably be up and down over the next few weeks. She didn’t know when the grief and shock would bulldoze over her, but she couldn’t sit and wait for it. She had to grab onto what she could do stay afloat, and the wedding was a life raft. She asked him not to take that from her. Mariah said she and Tessa understood, and they’d move forward without reservations.

Tessa knew she and Sharon hadn’t always seen eye to eye. Sharon said that was ancient history. Tessa said that she and Sharon had become true friends and a source of support. Sharon felt the same way. Tessa wished her sister, Crystal could be her maid of honor, but she had legal issues that meant she couldn’t come back to the US. Tessa’s family wasn’t in the picture, so she was wondering if Sharon would walk her down the aisle. Sharon said she’d be honored. Sharon said Tessa was already family. Sharon would be proud to walk down the aisle with her beautiful daughter and daughter in law on her arm. Mariah loved Sharon, but she had another idea. Mariah knew Nick wasn’t her dad, but he’d been an amazing person in her life, and he loved her like a daughter. She knew he’d been an amazing father to her twin. She was hoping he’d do for her what he couldn’t do for Cassie. She asked him to walk her down the aisle. He said he’d be honored, and they hugged.

Back at the cottage, Faith and Noah looked at pictures of Rey, and she cried. Faith was glad Noah was there. Faith didn’t understand why Sharon was rushing things instead of just letting it all out. Noah didn’t think Sharon wanted them to see her break down. Faith said they all wanted to help. Noah knew, but Sharon got to deal with her pain the way she wanted.

Recap written by Christine

At the Abbott house, Kyle sent Harrison into the kitchen for some of Mrs. Martinez’s cookies. He wondered why Jack had him come to town.

“What the hell makes you think you can show your face in Genoa City after the devastation you have caused,” Nikki asked Diane. Jack and Phyllis were also in Diane’s suite, watching the confrontation. Nikki said she’d been charged with murder, which she was sure thrilled Diane. Diane said she didn’t enjoy any part of this. Diane had assumed Jack had explained her intentions for returning. Jack said he had no interest in making excuses for Diane. Diane said she’d been desperate, and she knew she had to run. Nikki asked why Diane didn’t just go without faking her death. Diane said she’d crossed some very powerful people, and she was afraid they wouldn’t leave her alone. Diane wasn’t thinking rationally, and she’d boxed herself into a corner. “If you had to play dead, you could’ve had the courtesy to stay that way,” Nikki spat.

Diane understood how Nikki felt. Nikki didn’t believe that. Nikki said Diane’s “death” set off a chain of events that wreaked havoc in the Newman family. Nikki and Victor had faced legal charges. Diane noted that the charges were dropped. Nikki assumed Diane was disappointed Nikki and Victor didn’t get life sentences. Nikki said she and Victor suffered – it had been agonizing. Nikki added that Diane’s partner in crime, Deacon, took full advantage of that. Phyllis asked if it was Diane’s idea for Deacon to blackmail Nikki for a murder she didn’t commit. Diane said she’d been a wreck, and she had no control over what was happening in Genoa City. Nikki argued that Diane could’ve come forward and revealed she was alive.

Jack got a text and told Phyllis that he had a meeting. She realized he was alluding to Kyle’s arrival. Jack wanted to take Nikki out of the room, but she insisted on staying. “It’s not like Nikki can be charged with the same murder twice,” Phyllis said. Phyllis grabbed a lamp on her way out of the room, to prevent Nikki from using it to bludgeon Diane. Jack and Phyllis left. Diane was relieved to have a chance to explain what she did and try to make amends. Diane was sure Nikki could relate. Nikki didn’t want to be compared to Diane. Diane said Nikki had changed – back then, she was drinking and violent. Nikki said when she attacked Diane, she was acting in self defense. “So was I, and that’s what you need to understand. I was scared and I was trying to protect myself,” Diane said. Deacon offered Diane an escape route, and she took it. Diane figured Deacon had his own reasons for what he did, probably involving his twisted relationship with Nikki. Nikki said she and Deacon did not have a relationship. She hadn’t thought of him in years. Diane said Deacon gave her a way out, and she was going to repay him by making the most of her life and not making the same mistakes. Nikki didn’t believe a word of that. She said Diane was still the same conniving little bitch she always was, and an apology wasn’t going to cut it, because everyone in town saw through her.

Nikki supposed she understood Jack allowing Diane to reach out to Kyle. She noted that Diane was Kyle’s mother, unfortunately for him. Nikki didn’t want Diane anywhere near her loved ones – she told Diane to stay away from Victor, Victoria and especially Nicholas. Diane said to relax – she had no designs on Nikki’s husband and son. Nikki thought Diane should stay away from Adam too. Nikki was sure people would hate Diane even more now. Diane didn’t think everyone was as unforgiving as Nikki. Nikki said that Diane would find no redemption here. “As much trouble as your murder caused me and my family, we were so relieved to finally have you out of our lives. No one has ever wanted you here, and no one ever will,” Nikki stated. She left. Diane called Jack and left a message asking him to let her know when Kyle was in town.

Jack and Phyllis went to his place and talked with Kyle. Kyle said Summer wished she could’ve come, but she’d asked him to give Phyllis a hug for her. Phyllis accepted the gesture, but she grumbled that it wasn’t the same. Jack asked about Harrison, and Kyle said he was playing upstairs. Kyle heard Rey died. Lola posted about it on social media. Jack said it was heartbreaking. Kyle was going to call Celeste and Lola. Jack thought that would be appreciated. In the few conversations he had with Celeste, she seemed close to her son. Phyllis said things like this made you count your blessings. Kyle agreed and said family was everything. Phyllis excused herself and left. Kyle knew it wasn’t like Phyllis to excuse herself. He sensed that she knew something he didn’t. He also knew Jack wouldn’t have called him here if it wasn’t something major.

Jack said this was about what happened in LA. He thanked Kyle for stepping up at Jabot and giving him the time and space to deal with his son’s passing. Kyle said of course – Keemo had been on his mind ever since he heard he died. Kyle knew it must’ve been painful that Jack missed the chance to reconcile with Keemo. Jack said that he was grateful he got to know Allie.

Jack said he didn’t even realize Keemo was back in the States. He’d received a cryptic anonymous text, and Phyllis responded to it. He’d received hints that lead him to Allie. Jack said that the person was sending him the texts because of Kyle. Kyle didn’t understand. Jack said the texter was someone they used to know. Someone who wanted their forgiveness. Jack wanted Kyle to know that opening or closing this door was completely up to him. Jack would support whatever decision Kyle made. Kyle wanted Jack to just tell him what was happening. “The person reaching out to me was your mother, Diane. She is alive. She is here, and she wants to see you,” Jack said.

At Society, Sally asked Adam how long Sharon and Rey were married. A little over a year, Adam said. Sally didn’t know Sharon that well, but from their encounters at the coffeehouse, she could tell Sharon looked content, like she was where she was supposed to be, and that she and Rey adored each other. She asked if he’d reached out to Sharon. He thought about it, but he didn’t think it’d go over well with her family, given the history. He didn’t want to do anything that would add to Sharon’s emotional burden. Sally didn’t think Adam should worry about Sharon’s family’s perception. Sally thought that What was important was if his visit made Sharon feel better. She said it was never wrong to tell your loved ones you were there for them. Adam was a little surprised Sally was encouraging this. Sally didn’t have an issue with Adam still caring about his ex. He said everyone else seemed to. She told him she wasn’t like everyone else. He knew. She’d be a lot more concerned if he didn’t give a damn about what Sharon was going through. She asked if he really thought his family would have an issue with him reaching out after what he did to save Victoria and the company from Ashland. Adam was wondering if Ashland caused the crash.

Adam spotted Ashland at the bar, and went over and loudly confronted him, despite Sally trying to keep him at their table. “You were supposed to leave town. You were paid a half a billion dollars to do it,” Adam snapped. Ashland said he only agreed to surrender control of Newman Locke and annul his marriage, not leave town. Adam said there was nothing left for Ashland here. Adam theorized that Ashland was sticking around to punish Victoria. Ashland thought Adam wouldn’t mind if that were true. “You have no affection for your sister. You just want to see her brought down a peg,” Ashland stated. Adam said that was rich coming from Ashland. Adam noted that he’d helped Victoria by removing the parasite that was Ashland from her life. Adam asked why Ashland had a bandaged hand and a boot on his foot – was he trying to garner more sympathy? Ashland said he was injured saving Victoria from the car. “You’re probably just faking your injuries like you did your cancer,” a skeptical Adam replied. Adam said that even if Ashland did rescue Victoria, it wouldn’t be enough to win her back, because no one held a grudge longer than her. Ashland said Adam would know. Adam wanted Ashland to do them all a favor and get the hell out of town.

Sally and Adam went back to his office. He wondered why Ashland was still around. Sally said that Ashland probably didn’t have much experience losing, so he might be trying to find a way to be the victor. She didn’t think he should let it get to him. He said it was hard not to when Ashland was sitting on 500 million dollars of Newman money. Victor walked in, and Adam revealed that Ashland was still in town, and he’d looked quite smug. Adam got the sense Ashland was cooking something up. Victor wasn’t going to allow Ashland to take that kind of money from him and mock him. Sally asked after Victoria, and Victor said she was okay. He thought Rey’s death added another layer of trauma to Victoria. He wondered if she knew Ashland was in town. He said they had to do everything they could to keep Ashland away from Victoria.

Adam mentioned that he was thinking of visiting Sharon and offering his condolences. Victor didn’t think that was a good idea. Sally didn’t see why not. Victor said if Adam approached Sharon now, a lot of people would think he was being opportunistic. Adam hoped Victor wasn’t one of those people. Victor said he was not. He appreciated that Adam went his own way and allowed Sharon to do the same. Adam didn’t want it to come off like he didn’t care about Sharon. Victor said Sharon knew the depth of Adam’s feelings, and she didn’t need any added conflict and stress – she had Nick and her children to comfort her.

Ashland went to The Grand Phoenix. He told Phyllis that Kyle texted him saying he was bringing Harrison to town. Now Kyle wasn’t returning his texts. Phyllis asked what Ashland wanted her to do about it. Ashland was wondering if Phyllis heard from Kyle and Jack. Phyllis pretended that when she was at the house earlier, Harrison had been sleeping. She suggested that Ashland just wait to hear from Kyle. Phyllis then changed her mind and said that she and Jack would bring Harrison over to Ashland and Victoria’s later. Ashland said thanks. He didn’t let on that he didn’t live there anymore. Phyllis asked if Ashland was okay after the accident. He lifted his hand and said he had minor burns.

Later, Nikki was exiting the elevator when she saw Ashland in the hotel lobby. She rushed to him and demanded to know what he was doing in town. He said he was here because he loved her daughter. She didn’t care about his feelings. Her concern was about helping Victoria heal. She didn’t want him to see Victoria again. He said she didn’t mind him seeing Victoria last night, when he rescued her. She appreciated him saving Victoria, but it didn’t erase the lies and deceit. Nikki would never forgive Ashland. Nikki thought that if Ashland loved Victoria, he shouldn’t insist on staying and making things worse for her. Ashland just wanted to make sure Victoria fully recovered from the accident, physically and emotionally. Nikki said that wasn’t Ashland’s place. He didn’t agree. She said Victoria’s family would help her recover. He said Victoria had free will and a beautiful fiery independent spirit, and she would decide how she wanted to deal with him. He was fed up with Nikki’s family’s constant complaints. “You’re not gonna be able to get rid of me, short of murder. So I would suggest you get used to seeing my face around here,” he stated. “We’ll see about that,” Nikki replied.

Sharon and Nick were at her place. She thanked him for insisting that she eat so she could keep her strength up. She knew Rey would’ve said the same thing. Nick told Sharon that she didn’t have to go to the morgue if she didn’t feel up to it. Sniffling, she said she needed to see Rey one more time. She didn’t think she could do it without Nick’s support. They hugged. Victoria came in, using her cane for support. Victoria said she was there if Sharon needed her. Victoria said that she was fine – the kids were there for her, and Nick had been wonderful. Victoria offered to bring meals or hang out with Faith. Nick said that was kind, but they had this handled. He said they were about to take off. Sharon excused herself and went upstairs, where she quietly shook and cried.

Victoria wished she’d been able to stay with Rey after the crash, so she could’ve told Sharon he wasn’t alone. Nick said that was beyond Victoria’s control, since she’d been unconscious and lucky to survive. Nick asked if Ashland chased Victoria and forced her off the road. She said he’d been following her, and he said he’d been worried about her driving in the fog while she was upset. Nick wanted to know what Ashland said at the office. Victoria said the details weren’t important now – she made it clear to Ashland that they were done. She admitted Ashland was right – she shouldn’t have been out driving in that state. She felt guilty. He said it wasn’t her fault, it was Ashland’s. Sharon returned. She’d overheard. She wasn’t looking for anyone to blame – it was an accident. Victoria appreciated that. She didn’t come here looking for absolution. Sharon knew why Victoria came.

Victoria went to Crimson Lights. Chelsea saw the cane and offered to get Victoria’s order, so the could have a seat. Victoria said it looked worse than it was. Chelsea said Victoria got lucky. Victoria agreed. Chelsea admitted that came out wrong. Chelsea said she’d been a little off – Rey’s death was so shocking and horrible. Victoria thought Rey’s death must be strange for Chelsea because she tried to kill him a year ago. “What happened last night is something that you tried to make happen before,” Victoria stated. Chelsea said she wasn’t in her right mind then, and she never wanted Rey to die. This was hitting her hard because Rey was a good friend.

Chelsea said Rey had every reason not to trust her, but he treated her with compassion and forgiveness. He was a sweet man who was good with Connor. He was on the road last night because he was taking her and Connor to hockey game. He left the tickets at home, went back to get them, and he never returned. Chelsea knew something was wrong, because Rey would never disappoint Connor like that. Victoria had no idea. She was sorry for Chelsea’s loss. Chelsea said Rey was one of the greatest men she’d ever known.

Nick and Sharon arrived at Crimson Lights after Victoria left. Chelsea approached and said Rey was a wonderful man, and she was truly sorry. Nick wanted to take Sharon home. Sharon had some things to do here, and she wanted to talk to Mariah about the wedding. Chelsea thought that Sharon could put that aside for now while she mourned. “I shouldn’t be mourning at all,” Sharon snapped.

When Victoria got to her office, Victor was there. He announced that Ashland was in town. She knew. Ashland had called her. Victor was angry about that, but Victoria said Ashland was just checking on her. She said that Ashland was out of the company, and the marriage was being annulled so he had no power over them. Victor thought things might be more complex than that. Victoria said she’d told Victor yesterday that she couldn’t just make her feelings for Ashland disappear, and that was even before he saved her life. It wasn’t an issue though because she was moving on.

Victoria learned her lesson, and she wasn’t tempted to trust Ashland again. She wished she’d caught on sooner. She knew Victor tried to warn her. He wasn’t there to scold her. He said that the hour between Victoria’s call to Nikki being cut off and finding Victoria in the cabin was arguably the most difficult moment of his life. He was so glad she was okay. She was sorry she scared him and her mom. She was sorry for so many things. They were sitting on the couch together. He wrapped his arm around her and pulled her close. He didn’t want her to be sorry about anything. He promised everything would be okay.
