[ Nate sighing ]

Adam: Dr. Nate hastings.

Nate: Adam. You know I don’t practice medicine anymore.

Adam: Ah. You’re right. You quit being a doctor to do something really important. Run a media company.

Nate: Is there something I can help you with?

Adam: So, things are going well over there at newman media?

Nate: Couldn’t be better.

Adam: That’s good. From my experience, you have everything you need to be successful at that company.

Nate: And what exactly would that be?

Adam: Well, you have two things going for you. One, you’re not a newman, and two, you’re not intimately intertwined with one. So, you’re in good shape.

Victoria: The operation budgets are still way too high.

Nikki: I will find a way to get them down ten percent.

Victoria: 15. Oh, my goodness. Am I in the wrong office or did we step back in time on a time machine to when victor newman was ceo?

Victor: I may be away from the office, but… I’m still in the ring. Always a contender.

Nikki: Well, hello darling. I didn’t know you were going to be here today.

Victor: I came here to tell you both some good news.

Nikki: Oh?

Victoria: I don’t really like the way he’s smiling right now.

Victor: You’re looking at the new owner of mccall unlimited.

Victoria: Oh. Is that all? You scared me for a minute, I thought it was something important.

Nikki: Now, victoria.

Victoria: He knows what I mean. Buying mccall is like buying a– a horse or, um, a car or like a trendy coffee machine. It’s fun for a minute, but it doesn’t really change the world.

Victor: And now it begins. The competition, I mean.

Nikki: Yes, of course.

Victoria: You know, if you’re still planning on putting adam in charge, that’s– that’s a relief. Because he’s certainly doomed to fail. Thankfully, it’s not gonna be on my watch. So, as far as I’m concerned, it’s a win-win situation.

Kyle: Love you, harrison. Hey. How are you feelin’?

Summer: Kyle–

Kyle: I’m sorry, I– I know I keep asking. It’s only because this isn’t who we are. I don’t even recognize us anymore, and I miss us.

Summer: I do too. Okay? I’ve been shut down, and I– I’ve shut you out, and I– I– I shouldn’t do that.

Kyle: No, but– but I understand why you would. You need time and space and I wanna give that to you. You know I would do anything for you.

Summer: I know.

Kyle: But you gotta let me in.

Summer: Kyle, I– I know. But right this second, I– I have to go.

Kyle: What? Go where?

Jack: Wait, first phyllis, and now jeremy stark died? How is that possible? Wait– wait a minute. How– how did he die? Was he poisoned?

Chance: I don’t have all the details right now. His body was found in a different jurisdiction.

Jack: So he was on the run. Was it an accident?

Chance: I don’t know. All I know is a fisherman found him washed up on the shore of pheasant lake, that’s it.

Jack: Well, this is some blow to the da’s case against diane. I guess there was somebody out here who wanted stark dead and didn’t mind taking phyllis with him.

Chance: Okay, don’t get ahead of yourself.

Jack: Oh, now you wanna slow things down? You didn’t waste a second arresting my fiancé. Now, you wanna take some time and look at the facts?

Chance: Nothing has changed. We go where the evidence leads us.

Jack: I knew you were on the wrong track. I told you as much. Take this as a lesson, detective. Things are not always as they seem.

Diane: Hi. You look like hell.

Michael: I’m too much of a gentleman to return the compliment.

Diane: No, no, it’s good. It means you’ve been up all night working on my case.

Michael: That I have.

Diane: Well, that’s what I wanna hear. Now, tell me how the hell we’re getting me out of this mess. Sometimes, the lows of bipolar depression

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Nate: I like to think I’m succeeding at newman media because of my own abilities.

Adam: Hm. You definitely are. I didn’t mean to offend you. But you have to admit, some of the big moves that you’ve been making are just an extension of what sally was implementing.

Nate: There’s some of that. But something I learned the first day of med school: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Adam: Hm. It’s good advice.

Nate: Listen, sally was a good fit for newman media. She was doing a good job. And I made a point of telling victoria that.

Adam: Ooh. I’m sure she loved that.

Nate: It was not well taken. But I want you to know that I didn’t go campaigning for this job.

Adam: No, no, don’t– don’t worry. Sally is much better off out of that snake pit. The constant stress of being under the newman microscope, every decision being challenged, relentlessly questioned. She doesn’t need that. Especially now that she’s pregnant.

Nate: From what I’ve seen, she doesn’t have a thing to worry about. Nick would do all he can to shield her and his baby from too much family scrutiny.

Adam: His baby? Oh. You didn’t know.

Nate: Know what?

Adam: Sally’s beautiful, unborn bundle of joy, she’s mine.

Victor: My darling, you will change your mind once you realize that mccall will give a number of newman divisions a run for their money.

Victoria: Okay, well, who doesn’t enjoy a little healthy competition? Bring it on.

Victor: Mark my word, you’ll be kicking yourself for not buying mccall when you had a chance to do so.

Victoria: You’re putting adam in charge, correct? So, if history truly has a way of repeating itself, I’m pretty sure you’re gonna be the one with all of the regrets, daddy.

Victor: Don’t be so cocky. Adam has changed. As the new head of this big conglomerate, and a baby on the way, he’d have a far greater sense of power. He’d be someone to be reckoned with. I promise you. I love you both. Don’t work too hard.

Victoria: He’s gone overboard. He has. Has he forgotten what adam is capable of? He has no idea how hideously this venture is going to fail.

Nikki: You’re disappointed that you lost mccall, aren’t you?

Victoria: No– [ Scoffing ] I walked away.

Nikki: Because you’re afraid that when your competitor is your father, you’ll never win.

Chance: The timing of stark’s death is definitely concerning.

Jack: Oh, I’ll say.

Chance: It doesn’t erase all the evidence that points directly to diane, though.

Jack: Oh, I think it puts a rather big question mark on every aspect of the case against diane. Thank you, detective. I’ll be in touch.

Chance: [ Sighing ] Gee. Hey. I’m, uh, I’m sorry. I feel like I’m runnin’ off all your customers.

Sharon: Well, if it’s any consolation, I know exactly how you feel.

Chance: What do you mean?

Sharon: Well, you wouldn’t believe how seriously people take their coffee. I mean, it’s gotta be the exact right temperature and the right strength. I mean, demands go on and on.

Chance: Oh, so now you’re comparing caffeinating the masses to police work, yeah?

Sharon: Well, they’re both life and death situations.

[ Chance chuckling ] That’s why people get so worked up.

Chance: Yeah, yeah, I guess you’re right. I guess you’re right. But you know what, coffee’s not gonna do it for me right now.

Sharon: Hm. Well, you’ve come to the wrong place then.

Chance: No, I just mean I– I need somethin’ a little bit more substantial. You know, you did agree to let me take you to dinner sometime. And I know it’s, uh, a bit early, but I think now is the perfect time.

Diane: Michael, I can’t thank you enough for taking my case.

Michael: Thank me when the murder charges are dropped.

Diane: And I can’t imagine what this is costing you.

Michael: I think you’re misunderstanding our business relationship. This is actually costing jack quite a lot.

Diane: No, not financially. I mean it. At least 90 percent of the people in this town wanna see me fry, and I’m sure that includes lauren.

Michael: Yeah. Lauren’s not happy, no. But this isn’t a popularity contest. You think phyllis gave a damn about how many people cared about her? What we cannot do is get bogged down on how people feel about us. We deal in facts. And the first thing we do is focus on the problem that’s right here in front of us: Building a strong defense.

Diane: So, tell me all the evidence they have against me.

Michael: All right, well, we’ll discuss that later. First, you walk me through exactly what happened the night phyllis died. The bad, the ugly, the potentially embarrassing, all of it. Because if you withhold anything from me, even the slightest detail, you can find yourself another lawyer.

Kyle: You’re not gonna tell me where you’re going?

Summer: Do I need to check in with you before I go somewhere? I– I’m running an errand.

Kyle: Wait, let me come with you.

Summer: That is very unnecessary. Just like it was unnecessary for you to track me down at neil’s jazz lounge and yell at chance.

Kyle: Hey, hold on. I just don’t think it’s the healthiest thing in the world for you to be hanging out in the place where your mother died.

Summer: You know what, kyle? My mom was unpredictable. And yeah, she drove me crazy, but we’re a lot alike. So, if I need to mourn her in this crazy, unpredictable way, then you just need to understand that.

Kyle: Okay, okay. I get it. Just be careful.

Summer: Besides, this errand, it could bring us all some closure. I used to wait to run my dishwasher

[ Michael sighing ]

Michael: There’s a gap in your timeline.

[ Diane scoffing ]

Diane: I have to account for every second the night of the gala?

Michael: You were alone for a period of time between wishing that you could strangle phyllis to death and her collapse in the lounge.

Diane: So, christine wants to prove that I wasn’t putting myself back together after phyllis attacked me. What does she think? That I ran out and grabbed some poison and somehow slipped it into phyllis’s champagne?

Michael: Actually, no. The poison wasn’t in phyllis’s drink, it was found inside of her mask.

Diane: Her mask? I didn’t even know that was possible.

Michael: I mean, why would you? You’re not a murderer. Were you alone at any time in phyllis’s hotel room?

Diane: Yes, then. After everyone left.

Michael: Ah, see, there. There’s your opportunity.

Diane: To what?

[ Michael sighing ]

Michael: The empty vial of poison was found in that suite.

Diane: Michael, that doesn’t make any sense. How could I run out and get some poison in the amount of time that it took me to brush my hair and put on some lipstick? W– what’s that?

Michael: It is an online receipt. According to this, you purchased the toxin online a few days before the gala.

Diane: What? Absolutely not.

Michael: You know, using your credit card.

Diane: Michael, I didn’t do that.

Michael: A crime of passion is one thing, but christine’s gonna try to say that this was premeditated. That you had a plan.

Diane: The only thing on my mind before the gala was jack announcing our engagement. I didn’t buy any poison! Online or otherwise. Michael, look at me. I am telling you the truth. I had nothing to do with phyllis’s death. Find jeremy stark. He’s the one behind all of this.

Michael: All right, all right, I’ll find everybody. But it won’t be pretty, and it won’t be easy.

Diane: Well, do whatever’s necessary.

Michael: Christine’s gonna have your family testify against you.

Diane: I know.

Michael: I saw you and phyllis fighting. They heard you threaten phyllis’s life.

Diane: Jack and kyle will understand. They’ll downplay it and explain the extenuating circumstances. They’ll do everything they can to help.

Michael: And what about summer?

Diane: Summer will do everything she can to see that I spend the rest of my life behind bars.

Kyle: Give me two minutes. Can you do that? Just talk to me. What’s going to bring us closure?

Summer: Answers. That’s what I need. That’s the only thing that’s gonna bring me any peace or quiet–

Kyle: I want that too. I want morning espressos at our place in milan and harrison correcting our italian. We were so happy.

Summer: Are you saying that we should just run off to italy to escape our problems? I–

Kyle: I meant what I said at the door last night, summer. And I know you heard me. I meant every word. No matter what happens, you and I will always belong together. I don’t care how long it takes, I’m not going anywhere.

Summer: Answers, kyle. That’s what I need, and then we can work on us.

[ Front door closing ]

Kyle: Dad.

Jack: Hi.

Summer: What’s wrong, jack?

Jack: It’s stark. He’s dead.

Nikki: Darling, whether you admit it or not, I know you’re still smarting for losing mccall to your father.

Victoria: Yes, it would’ve been nice to add mccall, but having adam tethered to it made the idea untenable.

Nikki: I totally agree with you. You made the right decision.

Victoria: Unfortunately, now I have to live with adam lording it over me until his predictable demise.

Nikki: Hm. Well, this acquisition is gonna be big news. Lots of fanfare. Press releases.

Victoria: Yeah, I know. I’m sure dad’s gonna wanna make a big splash to help adam.

Nikki: Might be a good time to get away.

Victoria: What do you mean? Like, as in a vacation?

Nikki: Well sure, why not? You know, take a few days for yourself. Just relax a little bit.

Victoria: Well, I do have that trip to los angeles coming up.

Nikki: No. That is for business.

Victoria: I know that, mom, but I could add a few days for vacation. I mean, you and I both know that I would probably turn it into back-to-back meetings, but for me that’s fun. And I promise you, I would get a massage and I would see the ocean. I mean, it would probably be from a window, but I would see it.

Nikki: You are only happy when you’re multitasking, just like your father.

Victoria: Mom, that’s not true. I know how to squeeze in a little r and r from time to time. Just ask nate. He’ll back me up on that. (Music throughout) Harry and david makes mother’s day easy. Share a gift made with love with a mom in your life. Choose from hundreds of stunning baskets and towers. It’s the perfect way to say thank you for everything. Harry and david. Life is a gift. It’s the most wonderful

time of the year

Chance: Sharon, this was your choice?

Sharon: I know, I know. Don’t say it.

Chance: I mean, we could’ve gone anywhere in town and this was your choice?

Sharon: How was I supposed to know that the dining room was closed for a private event?

[ Chance groaning ] We are supposed to be distracting me from this case, and you literally brought me back to the scene of the crime.

Sharon: Well, who knows? Maybe you’ll have an epiphany while you’re here.

[ Chance exhaling ]

Victor: Well, I understand congratulations are in order.

[ Adam chuckling ]

Adam: For what?

Victor: You’re having a daughter.

[ Adam smacking his leg ]

Adam: That’s right. How’d you find out?

Victor: Your brother told me.

Adam: Hm.

Victor: How nice, man. Makes me very happy.

Adam: Sally and I, we are– we are very happy.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Adam: But I also know that you don’t care for her, so I’m not really buying how pleased you are about the situation.

Victor: Well, I gotta tell you, another newman. She’ll live to be in the next century, be a shaker and a mover, innovate things. Makes me very happy. It really does. Okay? I have some news of my own.

Adam: All right. Let’s hear it.

Victor: I bought mccall unlimited. I’m the new owner. And you will start working there tomorrow morning.

[ Adam exhaling ]

Adam: You bought mccall?

Victor: I bought mccall. For you, your sons, your daughter. It’s a legacy that will go on forever.

Adam: Wow, that, um, that escalated quickly.

Victor: What do you mean by that?

Adam: My new baby with sally. It went from potential embarrassment to now being used as leverage to get me to take a job. Makes me wanna avoid mccall altogether.

Michael: The only thing that will bring summer some semblance of peace is clearing your name, and hopefully in the process, discovering the person responsible for her death.

Diane: Which seems close to impossible now that I see this evidence.

Michael: Including, but not limited to, trying to explain the fact that an unconscious phyllis was holding your engagement ring.

Diane: Oh, no, no, that was in jack’s pocket. And then jeremy bumped into him on the dance floor and he must’ve taken it.

Michael: You have no proof of that.

Diane: Well, no, because it was all happening so fast, and there were a lot of people.

Michael: Okay, okay, we can revisit that. Right now, we have to discuss what might be the most damaging piece of evidence against you, provided by me.

Jack: Yeah, stark’s death definitely adds a whole new layer of mystery to all of this.

Kyle: Summer? Hey, hey, are you all right?

Summer: I guess I’m just gonna have to live with all of these questions going unanswered. I– I’ve gotta go.

Kyle: Hey, can you stay for a little while? We can talk about this.

Summer: I don’t want to talk about jeremy stark. He’s a disgusting, manipulative criminal who tricked my mom into marrying him and probably had something to do with her murder. I’ve gotta go.

Kyle: Hey, let me go with you.

Summer: No. I am going by myself. I’ll call you.

[ Door slamming ]

Jack: Uh, what’s going on with her?

Kyle: Wish I knew. If you’ve had sensitivity, those zingers can really cause

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Nikki: So, nate, tell me something. Do you think victoria has the ability to relax outside the work environment?

Nate: I say she’s the boss. And if she says she has that ability, then I say she does too.

Nikki: Oh boy, it’s disappointing to hear you kiss up to her like that.

Nate: I mean it. I– I wouldn’t say it if it wasn’t true. Victoria is a great boss. And she wouldn’t be where she is today if she didn’t excel at prioritizing or having impeccable instincts.

Nikki: Fine. There’s no point in talking to you when you’re going to team up against me.

[ Nate chuckling ] So, if you don’t mind working those extra hours, and clearly you don’t, have at it. I mean, it’s paying off. Newman enterprises is poised for world domination.

Victoria: Nose to the grindstone.

Nikki: And on that note, I shall leave you. Buzz me if you need me.

Victoria: Thank you, mom. So, what brings you by?

Nate: I was hoping we can go over some ideas I had for langston, but if you’re busy, I can wait.

Victoria: Oh, one second. Hey. Would you, um, make sure that all of the contracts are uploaded for the whitsett meeting? Thanks. So, you were saying?

Nate: What’s goin’ on? Whitsett?

Victoria: Oh, yes. Um, I’m– I’m headed to L.A. For a shopping spree.

Nate: Ah, rodeo drive?

Victoria: No, I’m just in the mood for something a little bigger. Streaming platforms.

Nate: Wow, that wounds media-related. Strange I’m just hearing about this now.

Victoria: Ah, well, better now than after it’s all said and done. But since these, um, these new acquisitions would be under your purview, if you happen to have time to pop over to the left coast, why don’t you join me?

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: Daniel? It– it– is it you?

Daniel: Who else would I be?

Summer: No, are you the one that– are you the one who–

Daniel: The one who has been your brother your entire life? Yes, that’s me.

Summer: What– what are you doing here?

Daniel: Um, I come here a lot, actually. You know, clear my head. Today’s another one of those days.

Summer: Does it, um, does it usually work?

Daniel: Nope. Glad we ran into each other though.

Summer: Why?

Daniel: Well, I haven’t talked to you recently.

Summer: I’m not ready.

Daniel: Neither am I. So, you first.

Phyllis: Michael, um, it’s phyllis. Listen, diane is out of control. I’m terrified. She tricked jack into proposing to her. She’ll get rid of anybody or anything that might stand in her way. I know you probably think I’m being overly dramatic, I’m really serious this time. Please listen to me, that woman just attacked me and threatened to kill me. God help me, michael.

[ Phyllis panting ] I can’t believe I’m saying this. I’m actually afraid of that crazy bitch.

Diane: She sounds terrified.

Michael: Because of you?

Diane: No. The phyllis that trapped me in her hotel suite was anything but scared. She was accusatory. She was goading me into fighting back.

Michael: Hm, that sounds on brand for her–

Diane: Yeah, you saw phyllis the night of the gala. How did she seem to you?

Michael: Fiery, on the attack. You saw her.

Diane: Right, right, so why would she leave that message if she was really scared for her life? Why’d– she would leave you a voicemail? Does that make any sense?

Michael: She wasn’t thinking clearly.

[ Diane sighing ]

Diane: [ Chuckling ] Okay. What else don’t I know about?

[ Diane scoffing ]

Michael: When the police searched jack’s home, they found a letter from phyllis among your things.

Diane: What letter? She never sent me a letter. What?

[ Scoffing ] Michael, I have never seen this before in my life. W– where was this found?

Michael: In your bedroom.

Diane: Someone planted it there.

Michael: Mm. So, someone made their way into your very secure home and left that letter there?

Diane: No, I’m not saying that jeremy could have gotten access to jack’s house. But someone else could have.

Michael: Who? Who?

[ Diane sniggering ] Oh, you’re kidding me. You’re accusing phyllis of being an accomplice to her own murder? Moderate to severe eczema

Chance: This was a lot better than I expected.

Sharon: You know, the food here is the same as in the dining room, it’s just smaller portions and tinier plates.

Chance: Well, the food was great, but the company was just outstanding. Thank you, sharon. This has been a, uh, a perfect distraction for me right now. Sorry. Ah, hell. Hey, uh, I gotta run and take care of this. I’m so sorry. Thank you. This has been a very amusing afternoon.

Sharon: The pleasure was all mine.

Chance: Let’s do it again sometime. You know, maybe make it a proper dinner with, uh, with big plates and everything.

Sharon: I would really like that.

Chance: Can I walk you out?

Sharon: Um, you know, actually, I think I’m gonna stay, just for a little while. Finish my drink and have someone wait on me for a change.

[ Chance chuckling ] But you go. Go get some bad guys.

Chance: All right. I’ll see ya.

Sharon: All right. Well, see ya.

Daniel: I think that you need to open up.

Summer: Says who?

Daniel: Well, mom would. Just, whatever you’re feeling, just get it out there. You know, it could be dark or crazy or funny–

Summer: You know what, I actually think the world would be a better place if more people kept their emotions inside. Stuffed them down so that they didn’t cause problems.

Daniel: Well, that’s the exact opposite of what we should be doing.

Summer: Everybody grieves in different ways, daniel.

Daniel: I know, but you are mourning our mother like– like an angry, reclusive pain in the–

Summer: Hey! I just found out some pretty shocking news, okay?

Daniel: Okay. What?

Summer: Our new stepdad.

Daniel: Stark?

Summer: He’s dead.

[ Daniel scoffing ]

Daniel: Okay. Wait, this is for real? He’s dead? Just like that? How? When?

Summer: I don’t know. Nobody is telling me anything. They’re treating me like a toddler. But hey, you know what? They’ll probably talk to you. Why don’t you– why don’t you go find chance. He’ll tell you what’s happening.

Daniel: Maybe. Yeah, um, why don’t you come with me to the station?

Summer: So you can keep an eye on me? Daniel, please. I don’t need constant supervision.

Daniel: Okay, fine.

Summer: Good.

Daniel: Listen, I will back off. That doesn’t mean that I’m not still worrying about you. And I will be around whenever. Okay? Hey. I love you.

Summer: I love you too.

Diane: Let’s just look at this from a different angle. What if jeremy had an accomplice? Someone who kept his secrets and did his bidding.

Michael: Just like you did when you were laundering money for him in L.A.?

[ Diane sighing ] It’s all gonna come out in trial. You better get used to people pokin’ into your past and using your sins for their own private entertainment. But I digress, go ahead.

Diane: Phyllis and jeremy conspired together before to get me to leave town. What if he was just using her to gain access to jack’s house? I mean, phyllis walked in and out of there as she pleased. She visited summer and harrison.

Michael: All right, talk me through it. Convince me.

Diane: Michael, I found her in our home, alone, right before the gala. She could’ve planted the letter then, and gained access to my credit cards.

Michael: Go on.

Diane: Look, phyllis could’ve been part of jeremy’s plan. And if this letter is in her handwriting, which I’m assuming it is, then doesn’t that prove that she was in on it?

Michael: Hm. Why would she involve herself in a setup that requires her own death?

Diane: Well, I– I– I don’t know. I don’t know, but she was just so set on revenge that she would do anything to make me suffer?

Michael: Look, I can’t see her framing you for murder.

Diane: Michael, if you’re not willing to look at phyllis as the bad guy, then I have already lost this case.

Michael: Look, I know you’re searching for answers, but you won’t win any points in court, or with your attorney, who’s still grieving the loss.

Diane: What if phyllis’s death was an accident? What if they were just setting me up for an attempted murder, and then I– I– I don’t know, the ambulance exploded before jeremy could give her the antidote. Or what if jeremy turned on phyllis at the last minute and gave her a lethal dose of poison?

Michael: It’s farfetched.

Diane: Maybe. But what if phyllis’s murder was a revenge plot gone horribly wrong? For bathroom odors that linger.

Victor: Of course, you’ll run mccall. It’s yours to run. If you think you can make something out of it.

[ Adam chuckling ]

Adam: Look, if I agree to do this, I want some guarantees.

Victor: What are they?

Adam: Total autonomy. From newman. And from you.

[ Victor chuckling ]

[ Victor laughing ] In your dreams, son.

Adam: Look, make it a reality or this deal is dead.

Victor: And you come to your senses, son, before making another stupid, rash decision. Think of the legacy you could provide. For your sons, for your daughter, for yourself. For years to come. Or what would happen to you if you walk away from this?

Adam: It’s– it’s an amazing opportunity.

Victor: Uh-huh.

Adam: I’ll let you know.

Nate: You’re inviting me to go away with you to L.A.?

Victoria: I’m asking you if you’d like to join me on a business trip.

Nate: Do you think that’s wise?

Victoria: Just a few minutes ago, you were telling my co-ceo that you are willing to go wherever I say, and now you’re questioning me.

Nate: That is not what I meant.

Victoria: If your hesitation stems from the other night–

Nate: It does.

Victoria: Well, that’s not a problem then. I mean, you said that the incident was a mistake, and you don’t strike me as the type of man who would make the same mistake twice.

Nate: I like to think that’s correct.

Victoria: And also, you’re an adult. You’re capable of vast amount of self-control.

Nate: True.

Victoria: All right, so what’s the problem? I’m about to purchase some companies that might change the scope of your division. I’d think you’d be interested in that.

Nate: I am very interested in the business, yes.

Victoria: Good. Then you’ll join me.

Nate: L.A. It is.

Kyle: What does stark’s death mean for mom? Is she any closer to getting released? It’s not like she could’ve had anything to do with whatever happened to stark.

Jack: That’s what I tried to tell chance. They still don’t have all the facts.

Kyle: Does mom know? Does michael know?

Diane: I need to see jeremy. Can you figure out some way to get him in here?

Michael: To what purpose?

Diane: So I can get him to tell me the truth about what happened.

Michael: He’s on the run.

Diane: What?

Michael: The last time he was seen was shortly after the memorial. I mean, maybe when his little grift fell apart, he was afraid he’d go back to jail.

Diane: So he’s just disappeared? No. No, no, no, no, we need more time.

Michael: Listen. I’ll do what I can on my end, but keep thinking of details. Anything that will help us clear you.

Diane: All right, find him. Find jeremy stark, because he is the key to everything.

Michael: All right, all right, I’ll be in touch. Hey! Kyle, I’m glad you called, I was just talking to–

Kyle: There’s something I need to tell you.

Michael: Oh, why does this not sound good?

Kyle: Stark is dead.

Recap written by Eva

Billy: No comment. The family is requesting privacy at this moment. No need to call tomorrow ’cause you’re gonna get the same two words. Know them. Learn them. No comment.

Kyle: You doing the same thing I’ve been doing?

Billy: Trying to find new and exciting ways to tell these reporters to buzz off?

Kyle: Mm. Mariah’s coming back from maternity leave early to help us manage the situation.

Billy: That’s good. All hands on deck. We’ve been at this for a few hours right now and I don’t see it slowing down.

Kyle: I was hoping work would be an distraction from my family’s problems. Instead, the problems are swallowing up everything else.

Ashley: You okay? Sure I don’t have to ask you what that phone call was about.

Jack: What is happening to Diane is in travesty of justice.

Ashley: Okay, and you’re gonna set things straight.

Jack: Well, I’m certainly gonna help.

Ashley: What does that exactly mean? Who were you talking to?

Jack: Michael put me in touch with a financial forensics expert who is working on Diane’s defense.

Ashley: Okay. Well, Michael’s her attorney, so let him handle things, jack.

Jack: I’m trying to help him.

Ashley: What kind of help can you provide?

Jack: I am trying to save my fiancée from a life behind bars.

Ashley: I get it. So, you’re gonna make sure that once again, Diane doesn’t have to take responsibility for her actions.

Victor: Tucker mccall. I’ll be damned.

Tucker: Morning. Uh, the deal is finalized. Contract signed. So congratulations, you’re now the proud owner of mccall unlimited.

Victor: Excellent. I have pre-approved the wire transfer, and I will put the money into your account as soon as we end this conversation. Anything else?

Tucker: Uh, no. No, that should be it.

Victor: Good. Well, tucker, on a personal level, you’re probably relieved no longer having to deal with the vicissitudes of running a huge company. So you’re free of any responsibility. No ties to anyone. Congratulations.

Ashley: So I thought that maybe things would be better now with diane gone, but no such luck. Even though she’s in jail, her presence is everywhere. Because jack is going on and on about how she’s innocent. He’s convinced. And he’s gonna do anything he can to save her, of course. But I couldn’t stand it anymore. I told him that this desire he has to marry diane is just gonna wreak havoc with our family and the company. And guess what his solution was. Again, he’s telling me I should move out. I can’t believe him.

Abby: Uh… mom, maybe uncle jack’s right? Maybe you should move out.

Sally: God, this is amazing. I mean, it’s just… amazing.

Nick: It is.

Sally: I mean, it’s like some kind of miracle that they can just take a picture of the baby, my baby, and here it is. In black and white. Its– its perfect little everything. And to hear the heartbeat again. Did you hear it?

Nick: Yeah, I did. Nice and strong.

Sally: Man, I… I thought I was in love with this little one before, but it’s–

Adam: It’s incredible.

[ Chuckles ] I can’t believe we’re having a little baby girl.

Christine: So where are things at with jeremy stark? Any luck tracking down my key witness?

Chance: Uh, nothing so far. This guy knows how to disappear. But this has fired me up even more to find him.

Christine: Well, I think michael might be searching for him too, since he and jack are certain that he’s the killer. I… wonder if he’s had better luck.

Jack: Glad you could make it.

Lauren: I have to say, I was very surprised to hear from you. I thought you’d be too busy trying to clear your fiancee of murder charges. You’ve certainly kept michael very busy.

Jack: Go ahead, say it. You hate me for convincing michael to take diane’s case. Hey! It’s your dry skin.

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Lauren: I could never hate you, jack. But I sure as hell wish that you had gotten another defense attorney.

Jack: I know how difficult it is for michael to be taking diane’s case right now.

Lauren: No, you really don’T. So you know what? I think we should just handle things the way that we’re handling things at home.

Jack: How is that?

Lauren: To not talk about it. We’re not saying a word because anything leads to an argument. And I could– I– I could really use a friend right now. And I think you could too.

Jack: Yeah.

Lauren: You seem very, very stressed.

Jack: Yeah, it’s been a tough time. Especially at home. Summer is understandably devastated. Kyle is shaken by the whole thing. The two of them aren’t talking. Ashley and I shouldn’t be in the same room together. Allie moved in with noah to get away from all the tension, and, well, tracy was the smart one and took off for new york. Anyway, I’m glad I have a purpose, a real goal, A… direction to occupy my days.

Lauren: Yeah. I mean, michael is so occupied– broke my own rule there.

Jack: How are you doing in all this? You just lost your best friend.

Lauren: I miss phyllis… every day.

Jack: Yeah, it’s a big loss for a lot of us.

Lauren: And I just don’t see a resolution that’s gonna give anyone any peace.

Ashley: Are you taking jack’s side?

Abby: I’m not taking a side. It’s just if you’re so unhappy–

Ashley: It’s my home.

Abby: And you’re miserable there.

Ashley: I’m not gonna let jack chase me away.

Abby: It’s not a turf war, mom.

Ashley: It kind of is, and you’re clearly taking jack’s side.

Abby: I’m not, I just want you to find some sort of peace of mind.

Ashley: Okay, but I’m not gonna let my brother kick me out of my home.

Abby: Okay. Well, since you’re clearly gonna be stubborn about this, I’m gonna go to the kitchen and check on a couple things. But when I come back, if you’d like to look at some video of dominic at the zoo yesterday, it’s so cute. He is all about the giraffes.

Ashley: I would love to see that. That’ll cheer me up.

Abby: Okay.

Adam: Doesn’t it look like she’s sucking her thumb?

Sally: [ Laughs ] Totally.

[ Laughs ]

Nick: I’m glad the appointment was moved from yesterday to today. Built up the anticipation.

Sally: I’m sorry, what?

Nick: I was saying, it really worked out that the sonogram was moved from yesterday to today.

[ Chuckles ] You know, this baby’s gonna be very lucky. It will be spoiled by every member of the newman family.

Sally: Oh, yeah. Not really exactly ready to face that fact.

Adam: Yeah, why don’t you just let us enjoy this perfect moment before unleashing the threat of the newmans?

Nick: I’m just saying. It’s gonna be loved.

Sally: Agreed. Yeah, our… little girl is going to have a whole lot of love. Some might say more than her fair share. My moderate to severe plaque psoriasis…

Adam: She’s already spectacular.

Sally: Little chamomile.

[ Both laughing ]

Sally: What’s up?

Nick: It’s nothing that can’t wait.

Sally: If you need to go deal with work, you can go. I mean, you were already here for the big reveal at the doctor’s office. If you need to go, go.

Nick: I probably should get it out of the way.

Sally: Okay, yeah. Don’t worry about me.

Nick: I’ll call you afterwards.

Sally: Yeah. You walking out too?

Adam: No, you can go ahead.

Nick: Oh, okay. I’ll call you later.

Sally: Bye.

[ Clears throat ] Are you thinking that she looks like you? ‘Cause I gotta be honest, I think she looks a little bit more like me.

[ Laughs ]

Adam: You don’t think that there’s miracles, and then you see something like this little girl. Our baby girl.

Abby: Here you go, dad.

Victor: Thank you, sweetheart. There we go. Now, wait a minute. Your mother ran out of here in a hurry. What was that all about?

Abby: [ Sighs ] Uncle jack and mom have turned their home into a war zone over diane, so I was trying to convince her to move out for a while.

Victor: I don’t think your mother can be convinced to move out of her own home.

Abby: You know her so well.

Victor: I don’t blame her being frustrated with people who are defending diane jenkins. My goodness. There you are, son.

Nick: Hey, dad. Hey, abby.

Abby: Hi. Can I get you a coffee or anything?

Nick: Uh, no, thanks. I’m not gonna be here that long.

Abby: Okay. Don’t break anything.

Victor: We won’T.

Nick: What’s up? I was in the middle of something important.

Victor: I just purchased mccall. The deal is finalized.

Nick: Well, there you go. You got what you wanted. That has nothing to do with me, though.

Victor: Well, it does, son, because adam will run it. And the company is in somewhat bad shape. Will take quite some effort to straighten it up.

Nick: Oh, I’m sure. Why are you telling me this?

Victor: I want you to join adam at mccall. Hi, I’m lauren, I lost 67 pounds on golo. Happy mother’s day! Oh my gosh! My mom deserves the best, and the best gifts are from harry and david. Chocolate. Yummy! Cheese. Gouda. Wine. What’s that? It’s from harry and david. Aww. Thank you!

Nick: You cannot be serious. Why on earth would I join adam at mccall? I have a job, dad. A great job, at newman, in the family business. I have zero interest in some consolation prize that you bought for adam just so you can keep him out of trouble.

Victor: I understand your point of view, son. But hear me out. Victoria, your sister, has your mother to back her up. Adam is about to embark upon a very difficult job trying to straighten out that company. I want you to help him.

[ Scoffs ]

Nick: Ah, you’ve outdone yourself this time. It’s impressive. But that is never gonna happen.

Victor: You told me the other day that you and adam and sally actually get along for the sake of the child. Why can’t you do the same thing for the sake of family unity?

Nick: Here we are back to me and sally, and this time you even brought up the kid. It’s an all-time low. I don’t have time for this.

Victor: Son, please sit down. I’m not finished yet.

Sally: You know, I have to say, you have been pretty amazing navigating this whole thing.

Adam: Uh, I’ll take that. It definitely hasn’t been easy.

[ Sally sighs ] I don’t wanna overstep, but… I am so excited.

Sally: I know, right?

[ Laughs ]

Adam: But I don’t wanna say anything to upset you or– or nick. I just… I wanna stay in my lane.

Sally: The daddy lane.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] That kinda has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?

Sally: It does, yeah. So, question number one, asked and answered. Question number two… how do you feel about having a little girl?

Adam: I– I love it. I definitely love it, but… I’m baffled.

Sally: Baffled how?

Adam: Oh, I have no idea about little girls.

Sally: Yeah, but you have nieces.

[ Adam scoffs ]

Adam: It’s not the same. Uncles get all the fun stuff. Dad… I mean, how am I gonna be able to say no to our perfect little daughter when she’s looking up at me with those big blue eyes?

Sally: They could be brown.

Adam: Well, no matter what color they are, I am not gonna be able to say no. I wanna be wrapped so tight around her little finger.

Sally: Well, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. At least you’ve been a parent. I mean, I know nothing about kids, and my parents sucked.

[ Chuckles ] But you’re a wonderful father to connor, and he’s a great kid.

Adam: Yeah.

Sally: And so is christian.

Adam: Oh, that’s– that’s thanks to nick and– and chelsea.

Sally: Yeah. I mean, they’re part of the mix, but… I think that there is nurture and nature involved in how a kid turns out.

Adam: Yeah, that’s– that’s exactly what I’m afraid of.

Sally: What do you mean?

Adam: Maybe a reason that I’m glad we’re having a girl is because there’s less of a chance that I’ll screw the kid up, either from my genes or influence.

Sally: So if we had a boy, you would be worried that the kid would turn out like you?

Lauren: You probably don’t wanna deal with christine. Should we just go somewhere else?

Jack: No, no, no. I’m not running. I know diane is innocent. Christine will have to admit that too when the truth comes out. I’m– I’m sorry. The topic’s kinda hard to avoid.

Lauren: It’s all hard. You know? This morning, I got up, I was so excited to meet with this new designer.

[ Voice breaks ] You know, and the first thing I wanted to do was I wanted to go pick up the phone and I wanted to call phyllis and tell her about it. But I couldn’T.

[ Sobs ] Because she’s gone. And not just gone. This horrible, pointless death where I didn’t even have a chance to say goodbye to her. Ugh, before you know it, I was a mess and I wanted to cancel my meeting, and…

Jack: But you didn’T.

[ Lauren sighs ]

Lauren: I wanted to. But then you called. And I could hear phyllis saying to me, “stop with the waterworks and get your sorry self out of bed.”

Jack: Yeah, that is phyllis.

Lauren: That was phyllis. How could she be gone? Her spirit, and… her never-ending energy.

[ Sighs shakily ] What are we gonna do without her?

[ Knocking on door ]

Tucker: You came.

[ Laughs ] Come on in.

Ashley: Do you need any help packing?

Tucker: No, I’m good.

Ashley: Where are you going?

Tucker: I hear sri lanka’s nice this time of year. Maybe peru.

Ashley: Just like that, huh?

Tucker: Mm-hmm. There’s nothing keeping me here. I sold mccall. So whatever that company was to me before, an ego trip, my life’s work or a possible legacy for my son, it’s victor’s now.

Ashley: You’re quitting.

Tucker: I… [ Laughs ] I’m embracing my future outside of genoa city.

Ashley: Right.

Tucker: Right.

Ashley: So you said you had something for me.

Tucker: Oh, yes. Yeah. Just wanted to make good on one thing before I left. I wanted to get one of those– those big ceremonial checks, you know?

Ashley: [ Laughs ] Right.

Tucker: But this will have to do. So, you see that?

Ashley: Yeah.

Tucker: There you are. Mccall’s debt repaid, with market-rate interest.

Ashley: Thank you.

Tucker: You’re welcome. So… right? No debt between us anymore.

Ashley: Mm-hmm.

Tucker: No more you using it to keep me under your thumb, which has been a blast, but… game over now.

Ashley: So it’s just like that. You’re leaving.

Tucker: I am exploring other corners of the world.

Ashley: So in other words, you’re a coward.

Tucker: Whatever you say, ashley.

Ashley: I mean, what about devon and dominic? You can’t just leave. You can’t just walk away.

Tucker: Devon wants nothing to do with me.

Ashley: So you’re just gonna slink off like that? It’s unattractive.

Tucker: [ Scoffs ] I look good on a private jet.

[ Ashley laughs ] It’s not slinking off.

Ashley: Look, you know what? I– I had a– I had a plan. I thought it was a pretty good plan. I just wanted you to mend your relationship with devon, you know? ‘Cause yours is a story of redemption, and it– it meant a lot to me that you were gonna be redeemed, so–

Tucker: You know, I– I don’t need to be redeemed by you.

Ashley: Heard. You’re right.

Tucker: Okay. Wait a minute. I’m sorry. Wait! You see, this is what you do to me.

Ashley: What? I make you say mean, stupid things?

Tucker: Yes. You know that I tried with devon and I’ve tried with you. Obviously, it didn’t work.

[ Laughing ] I think dominic is the only person in this town who can stand me. You know, I don’t like to admit defeat, but I’m defeated, ashley. There’s nothing– nothing left for me. There’s no place for me here.

Ashley: There might be a place for you. Why don’t you move in with me? We’re done.

“The young and the restless” will continue. (Vo) get them to open up.

Tucker: Move in with you.

[ Scoffs ] Is this the bright idea that just came to you?

Ashley: I– I– I gave it some thought.

Tucker: What the hell are you talking about? I opened a vein to you the other day and you just shut me down. Now, you wanna be roomies? Wow. You know, you say I’m the one who enjoys the game. You’re the– you’re the game master. So, no. No, thank you. I’m not biting. I’m not moving in with you. I wouldn’t do it even if you were serious about it.

Ashley: We wouldn’t share a room. Obviously, you’d have your own guest room.

Tucker: Oh, well, in that case, sign me up. Uh, if there’s nothing else–

Ashley: There is something else. Yeah. Your son. Your grandson. You know, you need to stick around so you can fix things with them, and I think it would be very intelligent if you did that. Yes, because then I could watch and make sure that it happened.

Tucker: Yeah, I– I can do that from this room if I wanted to stay. I don’t wanna stay.

Ashley: There also is unfinished business with us. You were right. What you said the other day about me putting walls up where you’re concerned. And by the way, rightfully so. However, when I see you packing and everything, I’m just– you know, I’m not ready for you to go.

Christine: Oh, lauren, hi. I’m happy to see you. Could we talk for a minute?

Lauren: Oh. Uh, yeah. Come on.

Christine: Okay. I really just wanted to see how you were doing. I can’t imagine everything you’re going through, and I know you can’t be happy with michael defending diane.

Lauren: You know what? I’m– I’m not happy with any of it, actually.

[ Voice breaks ] Mostly about losing my best friend. But I’m– I’m so damn angry at my husband that we can’t even grieve this together. And I don’t understand. I mean, he and phyllis were so close. How could he possibly defend this monster? I– I’m sorry. I– I’m sorry. I know this, uh, can’t be easy for you either.

Christine: Yeah. I mean, it’s not exactly the case I would’ve chosen to prosecute, but as da, it goes with the territory. I have a job to do. [ Chuckles ] And I’m doing it. Just like michael’s doing his.

Jack: So what are you doing to find stark? He’s the guilty party, you know.

Chance: Actually, I don’t know that.

Jack: Oh, come on. He’s had it out for me and diane. Framing her is payback.

Chance: Oh, for when you two set him up on larceny charges for a necklace?

Jack: What are the police doing to find him? You tracking him? You– you got any leads?

Chance: You know, I don’t have to have this conversation–

Jack: An innocent woman is behind bars.

Chance: If you have a problem with how the case is being handled, the da’s right through there.

Jack: Oh, yes. I know. She wants to put her away.

Chance: She will have a fair trial, jack. So let me do my job.

Jack: A fair trial. She had everything she could possibly have wanted. Why would she throw that away? She has been set up. Stark had every reason to wanna hurt phyllis. You find him, you find your murderer. Unless the gcpd isn’t up to the task.

Sharon: Excuse me. Excuse me, gentlemen. Can we tone this down?

Christine: Jack, please step away.

Jack: Things aren’t always as they seem.

Adam: I know it’s not logical. But, yeah, I’m– I’m afraid if we had a son that he would turn out to be a little mini-me, and… that’s the last thing the world needs.

Sally: Okay, do I need to point out connor and christian again?

Adam: Yeah, but maybe they turned out great in spite of me, not because of me. I mean, it’s not like I’m some stellar role model or have my act together. I mean, I don’t even have a job right now.

Sally: Okay. All right. We’re shutting this down right now because as our baby girl’s co-parent, I need you to be confident.

Adam: But I’m just, I’ve screwed up a lot.

Sally: Yeah, you have. You’ve made some terrible choices, but you have owned your mistakes. You’ve learned and you’ve grown, and you know how to love. I see it every time you’re with connor. That kid means everything to you, and he adores you right back. He is smart, he’s kind, he’s funny. He’s everything like his father, so I don’t wanna hear any more about how you’re gonna screw up our kid, because it’s impossible. Okay? She’s– she’s gonna be perfect.

Adam: Well, thank you for believing in me. And I will do my best to put aside my fears and insecurities for you and for our baby girl.

Sally: Thank god. She’s gonna need a heck of a strong dad.

Adam: I thought you just said that she was perfect.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Yeah. Except for the fact that she might inherit all of my worst traits.

Victor: Please sit down, son. Maybe it’s because I’m getting older, okay? But you’re my sons, and I want nothing more than to see the two of you get together. So if you work together at mccall’s, that might happen. Instead of the two of you competing for a woman whose only skill seems to be to pit one brother against the other.

Nick: That is not what’s happening.

Victor: Nicholas, listen to your father. I’ve been around men. That’s exactly what’s happening. You’re too close to see it. She has both of you where she wants you.

Nick: You know, I just… I don’t appreciate being patronized.

Victor: I am not patronizing you, son. I’m trying to help you.

Nick: By asking me to join some business venture with adam, which you know is never gonna work. We will be at each other’s throats constantly. Give me a break, dad. Why can’t you do this? Why can’t you just focus on the fact that you have a new granddaughter coming and quit playing these games?

Victor: Granddaughter? Hi, I’m john and I’m from dallas, texas.

Nick: You know what? That was a mistake. That was not my news to share. It was adam’S. But we just found out this morning at sally’s sonogram appointment.

Victor: Oh, yeah. The three of you. How cozy.

Nick: As I’ve told you many times, we are making this work like adults.

Victor: Adam must be very happy having a girl, along with his two sons.

Nick: Yes. He’s excited. We all are. Sally is gonna be an amazing mother. But there’s something bigger going on here, dad. It is a new baby. Okay? It’s a new life. Now, I know how crazy you are about your grandchildren. So why can’t you just take a step back and wait for this beautiful little girl to get here in a couple months, hold her in your arms, and fall in love with her, and forget everything else? Please.

[ Victor sighs ]

Adam: Is this where I give you the pep talk that you just gave me?

Sally: Yeah, but this is totally different. ‘Cause we’re actually having a little girl, and I was a little girl. And I was a terror.

Adam: Oh, come on.

Sally: I was–

Adam: You were probably adorable.

Sally: I was stubborn. And a pain in the ass.

Adam: Oh, okay. So a lot’s changed since then?

Sally: Exactly. Look, I’m– I’m not– I’m not known for my patience, and I get short-tempered whenever I don’t get enough sleep, and I am super opinionated. And I know that mothers get into it with their daughters. What if she hates me?

Adam: Okay, just– stop. Come on. You sound ridiculous.

Sally: Is anything that I just said not true?

Adam: You can be a pain in the ass, but… we’re talking about traits that our daughter could inherit from her mother. She will have fire. She’ll be smart and sensitive, and she’ll be funny as hell. And she will have all that love that you never got from your parents. Shall I go on?

Sally: Why is all this so crazy-making?

Adam: No, believe me, we– we are just getting started. We’re gonna be second-guessing ourselves for the rest of her life.

Sally: Mmm. And loving every minute of it.

Adam: Yep.

Sally: Until she comes home late. Or what if she dates a guy that we don’t like? Or, what if she decides that, you know–

Adam: Okay. Okay. Why don’t we just save the crazy-making for after she’s born? Okay?

Sally: You’re right.

[ Chuckles ] It’s just…

[ Sighs ] I already love this little girl with my whole heart. You know, loving her is the easy part. But this responsibility is huge.

Adam: It is.

Sally: Like, scary huge.

Adam: It is. But you’re not gonna be alone. Girl dad is right here.

[ Sally chuckles ] When nick mentioned the newman clan and all the smothering that would entail.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Oh, yes. What is not to love? You know? Endless judgment from victor and nikki and victoria on everything from schools to, you know, what diapers I choose, and… you know.

Adam: Don’t freak out about it, okay? I promise that I will fend them off. And so will nick.

Sally: Well, I’m so grateful for that. But I do think that there is one newman who I love to the moon that we should include in all of this, and soon. Connor.

Sharon: I’m sorry about jack coming at you like that. You’re doing everything you can.

Chance: Yeah. It’s part of the job.

Sharon: Well, now I can understand why you’re rethinking your career.

Chance: Yeah. Uh… it’s crazy. I was pretty much ready to walk away from the gcpd. This case has changed that.

Sharon: How?

Chance: There’s certain people in this town, they think they are above the law. Whether it’s trying to get away with something or taking matters into their own hands, there is a complete lack of respect. And I am so sick and tired of being yelled at, and manipulated, and second-guessed. I’m gonna do something about it.

Sharon: Wow, this has really lit a fire under you.

Chance: Yeah. I will do whatever it takes to get the truth. Phyllis and her family deserve that.

Ashley: Look, if you feel beaten, then go. But this is not a good time in– in sri lanka. It’s monsoon season. And it’s almost winter in peru. So I think you should, you know, just stay, for a while, anyway.

Tucker: Why, so you can just keep jerking me around? You know, I’ll take my chances with the monsoons.

Ashley: Okay, what I said the other day about us not riding off into the sunset together?

Tucker: Mm-hmm. And… that you never made me any promises.

Ashley: Right, right. You know, maybe I was a little–

Tucker: A little wrong?

Ashley: I was… hasty.

Tucker: Ah.

Ashley: ‘Cause you pushed buttons that I didn’t even know I had. And I don’t know, maybe whatever this whole thing is, maybe we can make it work.

Tucker: If we’re under the same roof.

Ashley: Yeah.

Tucker: What about that guy you live with? What’s his name? Jack?

Ashley: Yeah, there is jack.

Tucker: Oh, yes. Yeah, there is jack. I see what this is about. This has nothing to do with us.

Ashley: This is not about that.

Tucker: No, this is you wanna use me to stick it to jack.

Ashley: This is not about that. No, it’s not. He’s got enough going on in his life right now. You know what? This is embarrassing. It’s like I have to beg you to move in with me. Why don’t we… just think of this as a grand experiment? We’ll just see if we can make this work, and if we can’t, well, then you fly off to sri lanka and follow your monsoon, and– and… if it does…

Tucker: I just– I don’t know why when you say it like that, it’s such a turn-on. (Dog barking) we love our pets.

Ashley: So? Do you accept my offer?

Tucker: How stupid do you think I am, ashley? I’ve gotta have some assurance that you have real feelings for me and you’re not just screwing with me again. I can’t take it.

Ashley: You broke my heart in ways that I didn’t think it could be broken.

[ Voice breaks ] And when you came back to town, I swore to myself that I would never let you close enough to me again to hurt me.

[ Sobs ] And then when I bought your debt, I thought I would be okay ’cause I would– could– could control you, so. And then when you said that you were leaving, I thought that was great because then maybe my life would be better, but now I’m thinking maybe I was…

Tucker: Hasty?

Ashley: I was wrong. I really don’t want you to go. I mean, you paid off your debt, right? And the playing field is level. So why not play?

Tucker: I’m only gonna play if you admit that you want me as much as I want you.

[ Scoffs ] You can’t do it, can you?

Ashley: Look, I–

Adam: You wanna tell connor? I haven’t even broached the subject with chelsea yet.

Sally: Yeah, but from what I know about your son, I feel like he would love to have a little sister.

Adam: He’s a big fan of yours. But don’t you think it would be confusing for him? Why you’re with nick, you’re not with me? If he has a new baby sister and the child’s mine? And he’s still getting used to having johnny as a biological brother.

Sally: Yeah, but they love each other.

Adam: Yes, they do. But I wanna handle this responsibly. Will you let me talk to chelsea about the best way to go about it?

Sally: Yeah, of course. And then there’s christian.

[ Chuckles ]

[ Sighs ] But, I mean, I guess I can talk to nick about that. Or should we all talk about it together?

Adam: The awkward negotiations of a modern family.

Sally: Yeah. Especially when we’re trying so hard to be open and honest and mature. It’s exhausting.

[ Laughs ]

Adam: Well, no matter how complicated it gets, I am certain about one thing: That this little girl is gonna be loved every day of her life.

Jack: I’m not here to make trouble. I forgot my tablet.

Chance: What do you got? What? No. Are you sure?

[ Sighs ] Damn it. Yeah. I– I appreciate the call.

Jack: That phone call have anything to do with diane’s case?

Chance: You know, I’d like to know that as well.

Jack: What does that mean?

Chance: They found jeremy stark. He’s dead.

Jack: Have you had any luck getting a trace on stark’s money? Well, that’s a disappointment. Have you tried overseas? That’s where he usually stashes his cash. Okay. Leave no stone unturned, please. My fiancé’s freedom is at stake.

[ Groans ]

Jack: I am trying to save my fiancee from a life behind bars.

Ashley: I get it. So, you’re gonna make sure that once again, diane doesn’t have to take responsibility for her actions.

[ Daniel groaning ]

Daniel: No!

Lily: Hey. Hey. It’s okay. You just had a bad dream. You okay?

Daniel: Mm-hmm. Yeah, um, it’s just a dream. Just a dream.

Lily: Hey, I’m here, okay? You’re okay.

Victor: Tucker, my man.

Tucker: Thanks for meeting me.

Victor: Thank you. It’s a rather strange venue for you to choose to have this meeting. I mean, considering what happened here.

Tucker: For me, it’s just a bar with a good bourbon selection and good music.

Victor: That’s a really cavalier description of this place.

Tucker: I can tell you that phyllis would feel the same way if it were me in the morgue.

Victor: Uh-huh.

Tucker: Anyway, you ready to talk business?

Victor: Yeah. So I read through this contract, I liked it. I put my signatures to it. And so can you. Um… then, your company will become mine.

Tucker: You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?

Victor: I don’t give a damn how I feel. When it comes to business, I’m cold as ice. You know that. So, would you sign? Unless, of course, you have some reservations. That’s me before dawn powerwash.

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by… eggland’s best.

Lily: Do you remember your dream?

Daniel: I was, uh, outside of the coffee house and I see mom at the end of the street, so I started racing towards her. It was like just as I got to her, suddenly I was back in my house in savannah. It was– it was just like before I came back to genoa city. Heather wasn’t there, lucy wasn’t there. I mean, the house, it– it just felt bigger. Emptier. Really lonely.

Lily: I know. I had that happen when my dad died. It’s like I would wake up and think for a second that he was back and–

[ Lily sighing ] Or I would be walking somewhere and see someone that I thought resembled him.

Daniel: It actually happened.

Lily: Really?

Daniel: Yeah. It was the day at the memorial. There was this woman there who must have been her height. I– I saw her like just real quick from the side, but I mean, I still had to do a double take. Obviously, it wasn’t her, but you know, for a minute there gave me hope. And then, it’s just back to reality. That kind of crushed me.

Lily: I know. I’m sorry. But listen, once you get through this wave of grief, you’re gonna have random moments that remind you of your mom and it’s gonna help keep her spirit alive.

Daniel: I’m really glad you’re here. Does– it helps being with someone who gets it. Look, I also, I know it’s a lot, so if you need to go–

Lily: Where would I go and why would I?

Daniel: I’m just saying. You know, if you wanna pretend like what happened here between the two of us, it didn’t happen, then I’d understand.

[ Pours drink ]

Billy: Here you go. Cheers to you because you’ve been burning the candle on both ends.

Kyle: Yeah. I’m doing everything I can to help my parents. I’m fielding media requests and whatever else I can do to help my dad free up his time because he needs to be spending it proving my mother’s innocence.

Billy: Have you talked to her lately?

Kyle: Briefly. At the arraignment. Dad went to visit her this afternoon. She told him not to come back. She doesn’t want us to visit her, supposedly for her own good.

Billy: I’m sorry, man. That’s tough.

Kyle: I’m hoping she’ll change her mind. She needs to know we’re in this together, doing everything we can to get her out of there.

Billy: Look, it’s good that you’re supporting her and of course, you would and jack for that matter, but you cannot neglect your own life in the process. You know, you’re telling me that this situation is affecting your marriage. Take it from the king of failed relationships, you’ve got to fix that problem before it’s too late. You cannot lose summer.

Jack: Maybe this is not a good day to take jabs at diane. I thought on maybe some basic human level, you might actually sympathize with her plight.

Ashley: Why would I?

Jack: She’s being locked up for a crime she didn’t commit. That doesn’t resonate with you? At least you know what it feels like to be wrongly accused.

Ashley: Oh, I do, indeed, because of diane. And just for the record, I think she’s rightfully accused.

Jack: Wow. You take some pleasure in saying that, don’t you? Like you won something. You are wrong. She is innocent and she is suffering and because she has been denied bail, she refuses to even see me.

Ashley: Okay, well that’s the wisest decision she’s ever made. Listen to her and move on, please.

Jack: Even if you actually believe diane was guilty of murder, the level of spite in this conversation is outrageous. She was framed, ash.

Ashley: You keep saying that. But the way I see it, she had every reason to want phyllis out of the picture so she could have everything. So she could have the loving relationship, the job at marchetti, the home in the abbott mansion and your ring on her finger.

What are folks 60 and older

up to these days?

Tucker: I have no reservations about selling my company. I’m done with this town and I’m done with mccall unlimited. It used to be my passion, now it’s just a burden I no longer wish to carry.

Victor: Oh, my god. How touching, tucker. You expecting my sympathy or what?

Tucker: I think I know you a little better than that.

Victor: All right. If it makes you feel better, I just want you to know that your company will continue to thrive, you know. Although, I may change its name.

Tucker: I couldn’t care less what you call it. I just– I’m looking forward to it not being my problem anymore.

Victor: Well, then why don’t you put that pen to paper.

Tucker: Just for due diligence, I would like to look it over one last time.

[ Victor laughing ]

Victor: Do I need to remind you that you are the one who came running to me?

Tucker: Mm. I know that. And I’m gonna sign it soon. You have my word.

Victor: Well, in that case, I’m looking forward to the confirmation of your signature.

[ Both sighing ]

Kyle: Summer moved into a guest room.

Billy: Uh-oh. Separate rooms is the first step towards separate lives. Are you two fighting?

Kyle: That’s the thing. We’d almost be better if we were. She’s just completely shut down. She said she’s moved rooms because she didn’t want to wake me with her tossing and turning. But I think she can’t bear to look at me. She’s convinced my mother killed hers.

Billy: That’s a relationship dilemma I’ve never dealt with.

Kyle: Yeah. And the only solution I see is to clear my mother’s name, not only for her innocence but for my marriage. Summer is so inside her head right now.

Billy: What do you mean by that?

Kyle: She only comes out of her room when she wants to spend time with harrison. And when she does, she puts on a good front, laughing and smiling and reading stories. But once she’s alone again, she completely shuts down.

Billy: Sounds like she’s dealing with grief in her own way.

Kyle: I get that. And I want her to have all the space and time she needs, but I’m not so sure she can heal on her own. So, I don’t know what to do because if I can’t talk to her, I can’t help her. And every time we do talk, it only makes things worse. The only solution I see is to clear my mother’s name.

Billy: I hear you. But you’re dead wrong.

Kyle: Why did I even start this conversation with you?

Billy: Because you need someone to talk to and I’m the only one here. You may not like my advice and I can’t force you to listen to me, but there’s a better way to help summer.

Jack: You seem to think I accepted everything diane said without any doubt. I had my doubts. I expressed them. I took a good look at them and I set them aside. Here’s what I believe. Diane is not capable of committing what she’s been accused of.

Ashley: And here’s what I believe. I think she is absolutely capable.

Jack: And I did not choose diane over phyllis. My relationship with phyllis had run its course long before diane came back into my life. One did not preclude the other. And just so we’re clear, while I am defending diane, I am mourning phyllis’s loss. I loved that woman very much and she was once a part of my family.

Ashley: Okay. But here’s the thing, jack. You know that I was never a phyllis fan, but even I saw what was going on. You took every opportunity to turn your back on phyllis when diane came to town. You did. And there was still something going on with phyllis. You know that. You can’t deny it.

Jack: Diane did not steal anything from phyllis. Not her job, not me, not any part of her life. Phyllis was an amazing woman, but she had a habit of getting in her own way a lot and you know that.

Ashley: Kind of sounds like you’re blaming phyllis for her own murder and that’s worse.

Jack: I want the actual killer of phyllis to face justice every bit as much as I want diane to be exonerated, but I believe diane is in jail right now for a crime jeremy stark committed.

Ashley: Yeah, you’re right. Diane’s a martyr. She is paying for all the sins that everybody else has committed. I see that now.

Jack: Diane is not perfect. No. She has made more than her share of mistakes. She’s hurt a lot of people. But unlike you, I believe people can change, people can grow, people can transform and I think diane has changed. And I think she is incapable of murder. So, I am going to defend the woman I love, the woman I intend to marry.

Ashley: Oh, my god. You still intend to marry her. You are such a fool. And you are reckless, jack. Not just with your legacy, but with my family’s and I’ve got a problem with that. I’ve got a big problem. You are willing to tie the entire abbott clan to a woman who’s gonna drag everybody down with her! Hi, my name is tony cooper. I used to wait to run my dishwasher

Lily: We’re still in bed, so I think it’s a little late to pretend nothing happened.

Daniel: But you want to?

Lily: No. No. We have a connection and a history and I think we both wanted and needed this.

Daniel: I’m just glad this won’t mess things up between the two of us.

Lily: No, it won’T. You know, we don’t have to pretend like nothing happened, but we also don’t have to make it more than it was.

Daniel: And when I look at you, the lonely feeling that was in my dream just feels very far away.

Lily: Well, I’m really happy that I can help you find some solace from things, but no one else can help you but you. I know that grief transforms you and you will carry the loss of your mom with you forever. And there will be times that it feels like it just happened, even though it’s been a long time, but you have to take care of yourself. That is the most important thing right now.

Daniel: That’s what I’m trying to do.

Kyle: Billy, you’re not listening. I have tried every approach. She doesn’t wanna be around me. She doesn’t wanna look at me or be in the same room as me, so pushing her isn’t going to work.

Billy: Kyle, you’re a good person, okay? Of course, you’re gonna respect her time and her space, but you take that too far, those wounds, they become scar tissue. The distance becomes a chasm. Trust me, it’s really difficult to get back to where you were.

Kyle: What are you suggesting?

Billy: You gotta get her to listen. You go home. You make sure she knows how much you love her. You don’t mention diane, you don’t mention phyllis, you don’t mention any of the noise that’s swirling around you. You reassure her that you are not going anywhere. And when she’s ready to open up that door to you, you are standing there waiting with open arms.

Audra: Drinking alone?

Tucker: No, I’m here with all my friends.

Audra: [ Chuckles ] Well, that’s what happens when a guy burns every bridge.

Tucker: Hmm. Did you drop by just to rub it in?

Audra: Not necessarily. So, what are we, uh, drinking and thinking about?

Tucker: That’s funny you should ask. I was just thinking about the difference between being alone and being lonely. You know, I spent months in that ashram alone.

[ Laughs ] I never felt as lonely as I do right now.

Audra: Hmm. Look, I– I know I gave you a hard time about ashley, but I’m sorry it didn’t work out.

Tucker: I have no idea how I got here. Sure has been a long and winding road though. You know when I never felt lonely when I was young, just starting out in the music business.

Audra: Yeah. I’m– I’m sure a young tucker mccall was really alone.

Tucker: No, but it was all exciting, being around engaging, interesting people and managing bands, signing new artists.

Audra: All right. All right.

[ Chuckles ] Those glasses are pretty damn rosy. What you loved was signing artists to contracts they didn’t understand so they could make hits for you without getting properly compensated.

Tucker: Yeah. The good old days.

Audra: Okay.

Tucker: You and I had some good times, didn’t we?

Audra: We had our moments.

Tucker: Hey, I’m gonna go back up to my room. Would you join me? Moderate to severe eczema

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Billy: Thank you. See you later. Hi.

Lily: [ Laughs ] Are– are you heading out?

Billy: Yeah. Yeah. Just grabbing some takeout.

Lily: Yeah. Yeah, we’re gonna eat as well.

Billy: How you holding up?

Daniel: As good as I can be, I suppose.

Billy: Yeah. I thought I should let you know that the media scrutiny around diane’s case is only growing, especially now that leanna love’s article published today. I really hope you don’t have to deal with any of that garbage, but you might.

Daniel: Mm. Thanks for the heads up.

Lily: We’ll get the pr team to draft a statement.

Daniel: I appreciate it, but that’s not necessary.

Lily: No, I know, but you’re an employee now now at chancellor-winters, so just direct any questions to us.

Daniel: I can handle it.

Lily: I know. Just let me do this for you.

[ Chuckles ]

Daniel: She’s hard to say no to.

Billy: Really? I hadn’t noticed. You’re in good hands. Lily knows how to take care of people. That’s why she’s in the big chair.

Lily: We should probably get a table, so have– have a good night.

Billy: Yeah, you too. Goodnight.

Audra: This is the contract for the sale of mccall unlimited?

Tucker: Mm-hmm.

Audra: That’s a big deal. This could be very rewarding for you.

Tucker: Hey, but you wanna know the best part? Check this out. It’s victor’s pen. I stole it from him.

Audra: This is a big change. No wonder you were ruminating on your start in the music business. It’s the foundation of your empire.

Tucker: It was the foundation.

Audra: You said you wanted to be free, right? There’s your ticket.

Tucker: It wasn’t supposed to end this way, audra.

Audra: Okay. It’s just one chapter coming to an end.

Tucker: What– whatever comes next for me, it’s not gonna happen in genoa city, I’ll tell you that.

Audra: So you’re definitely leaving town then? Makes sense. You’ve always been more of a big city kind of guy.

Tucker: Hey, you know, the money from this sale will mean that I can start over anywhere. What do you say? You wanna blow this town? Hm? Come on, let’s go. You wanna be my right hand again?

Billy: Got all your favorites. And I was thinking that maybe we can go have a picnic in the park because it is a beautiful night out there.

Chelsea: Two meals together in one day. You are setting a dangerous precedent.

Billy: I am willing to risk it if you are.

Chelsea: [ Laughs ] Let’s live on the edge.

Billy: Yeah.

Chelsea: What?

Billy: Nothing. Nothing. I’m just– I’m happy.

Chelsea: Well, I’m glad you’re happy

Billy: And I’m feeling lucky.

Chelsea: Why? I know the ceviche is really good. It’s society but–

Billy: [ Laughs ] Actually, speaking of society, I ran into, uh, lily and daniel while I was there.

Chelsea: Huh? How’s daniel?

Billy: He seemed okay, but I think your instincts were right to give him a little bit of space right now.

Chelsea: Okay. Well, good. I’m glad I didn’t approach him then.

Billy: You know, I picked up on a little something between the two of them.

Chelsea: Really?

Billy: Mm.

Chelsea: Something romantic? How do you feel about that?

Jack: You won’t allow me to marry the woman I love. That is ridiculous. My relationship with diane has nothing to do with you, and it will hardly bring down the family name.

Ashley: You know you had a problem with me going on a date with tucker, but it’s okay for you to marry a murderer.

Jack: Okay. I’ve had enough of that conversation. Diane didn’t kill anyone.

Ashley: You don’t know that for a fact! And what about the fallout? What about when word gets out that you’re marrying a woman that’s going on trial for murder? You don’t think people are gonna be affected by that one, jack? People like summer, like daniel. You don’t think jabot’s reputation is gonna take a huge hit trying to survive that?

Jack: I’m doing everything I can to exonerate diane before this ever goes to trial.

Ashley: Well, good luck. Let’s just push the physical evidence aside. What about the– the– the history diane has with phyllis, the hatred that goes back decades. She faked her death. Remember that? Diane faked her death. Let innocent people be arrested for it. When the word gets out about that, people are gonna understand that she’s absolutely capable of killing phyllis. They’ll know that if–

[ Door slamming ]

Kyle: Don’t bother trying to hide what you’re arguing about. I could hear you from outside the door.

Jack: No, I’m sorry. This is a difficult time for all of us, especially you and–

Kyle: Dad, I– I don’t wanna get into it right now. I need to talk to summer.

Jack: Can’t you see the pain he is in? We have enough heartache, enough misery in this house without you injecting your bitterness. If you can’t hold back your rage for diane, I suggest you move out. (Vo) get them to open up.

Audra: You’re moving fast, tucker.

[ Sighs ] You know, we went from an invitation to your suite to an invitation to anywhere in the world.

Tucker: Yeah. Is that a yes?

[ Audra laughs ]

Audra: You know, I have senior executive position at newman media with room for growth.

Tucker: You’re telling me that working for victoria newman is a dream of yours?

Audra: No, but I’m learning from her, okay, and I plan to teach her a thing or two as well.

Tucker: Ah, yes. Always an agenda, right?

Audra: You taught me well. Besides, genoa city has grown on me. Now, there are some fascinating people here too.

Tucker: I should have known you’d hedge your bets just like ashley and devon. Just like them, you’re pushing me away because you think– you think there are greener pastures somewhere, right? Let me tell you something, audra, most of the time there aren’T.

Audra: Oh, my god. You know what your problem is? You crave to be the center of other people’s lives. And when you don’t get total devotion or allegiance, you turn bitter. Now, I guess all that work you did on yourself didn’t really take. Ashley is right. You haven’t changed, but I knew that all along.

Tucker: I’m sorry that I asked you up here. I guess you should go, huh?

Audra: Yeah. Don’t wallow in your misery too long, tucker, because when you finally come out of that hole, no one will care you’re back.

[ Door slamming ]

Daniel: Did running into billy– was that awkward?

[ Lily laughing ]

Lily: Uh, yeah. A little. But I mean, we broke up months ago and, you know, I’m entitled to my own personal life too.

Daniel: Sure. Sure you are. But, you know, I couldn’t help notice that you were avoiding eye contact with him.

Lily: Yeah. Well, I mean, maybe the timing wasn’t ideal.

[ Laughs ]

Daniel: Look, everyone’s got complicated feelings when it comes to their exes, but, you know, you’ve been so generous listening to me talk about heather, and now losing my mom that I just– why don’t you let me repay the favor by listening to whatever you have to say about billy.

Lily: Well, thank you. But I mean, how long have you known me?

Daniel: Really? Um… many, many years. I– I don’t know. Too many to count.

Lily: Right. And how many times have I, you know, wallowed over a failed relationship?

Daniel: I can’t think of any.

Lily: Yeah. I just, I– I don’t do it. You know, even with kane. It’s like, that hurt a lot but, you know, I was back on my feet in no time.

Daniel: I don’t know how you do it. You know, you’re not the love him and leave him type. You– you get in a relationship and you’re committed and you’re caring.

Lily: I don’t know. I just, I don’t– I don’t like looking back. I wanna look forward. And I think it has a lot to do with being a cancer survivor. You know, when you go through something like that, you realize that life is way too precious to get bogged down by a failed relationship.

Daniel: Are you insinuating that I should be more like that?

Lily: [ Laughs ] No, I mean, you’re different. You– you wanna know why something didn’t work. You know, you need to analyze all the details. Like, I– that’s not me. Like, we’re just, we’re different that way.

Daniel: Maybe that’s why we get along so well.

Lily: Yes. Maybe.

[ Daniel chuckling ]

Daniel: Can you, um, can you do me a favor though?

Lily: Oh, god. What?

[ Laughing ]

Daniel: Can you wallow just a little bit? You know, just for me. Just give me something. Anything.

[ Lily laughing ]

Lily: What?

Billy: I guess I’m relieved if lily’s moving on with– with daniel. You know, she deserves more than I could give her in the end and uh, I hope that’s what she’s looking for.

Chelsea: Look at you. That healthy attitude of growth and maturity.

Billy: Pretty impressive, isn’t it? I’m just simply taking a page out of your book, you know? You– you seem to have really good relationships with your exes.

Chelsea: Except when I went off the deep end over adam and sharon.

Billy: You had a stroke. I would chalk that up to a severe medical issue.

Chelsea: Oh, that’s generous. But the rough patch I went through definitely lasted longer than I care to admit.

Billy: But you came out the other side. I mean, look what you’ve overcome. And I see a fully realized beautiful woman in front of me that deserves happiness.

Chelsea: Well, you make me happy.

Billy: Back at you. You know, I guess that’s why I’m– I’m okay with lily and daniel because it allows me to move on as well.

Chelsea: And is that what you’re doing?

Billy: Pretty sure I am. Yeah.

Chelsea: You know, conner is spending the night tonight at the ranch.

Billy: Is that right?

Chelsea: I can’t believe I just said that out loud.

Billy: Yeah, you did say that out loud, but you can’t take it back now.

Chelsea: I don’t wanna take it back. I’m feeling very strong emotionally, mentally.

Billy: But?

Chelsea: But it’s been a long time since I’ve been with someone.

Billy: It’ll be okay. It’s like riding a bike.

[ Chelsea laughing ] Tv: Try tide power pods with 85% more tide in every pod.

Lily: Look, I don’t think about billy. You know, we had a moment and it was beautiful, but it’s over. So, I am here with you now. Very present.

[ Laughing ]

Daniel: Still no regrets?

Lily: What? Of course not. No. What happened with us was organic and natural. You know, it’s funny ’cause I feel like we’ve known each other for a very long time, since we were teenagers and we have always managed to navigate all the twists and turns of our relationship and I hope that continues. Whatever is meant to happen will happen. And you know, with billy, I mean, if we’re meant to be friends, then we will be. And if we’re not, then we won’T.

Daniel: That is very zen for a ceo.

Lily: Yeah. I may continue to surprise you.

[ Both laughing ]

Billy: You know what? I just realized that I forgot the food downstairs. Can I– can I go get it?

Chelsea: Don’t you dare.

Billy: No? You’re right.

Chelsea: Mm-hmm.

Billy: That’s a stupid question.

Chelsea: Mm-hmm.

Billy: But I am gonna ask you one more time.

Chelsea: I am.

Billy: Are you sure you’re okay?

Chelsea: Yeah.

Billy: I can ask another way, you know.

Chelsea: No. I’ve never been so sure.

[ Chelsea panting ]

Kyle: Summer? You don’t have to open the door or say anything. I know you can hear me. I’m not gonna let you push me away. I’m worried about you and I wanna make it easier for you. I don’t know how yet, but you need to know I’m not going anywhere. I’m gonna keep trying until something works. So, my latest idea is this: But talking but to– together. I– I– I promise you, if you open this door, we don’t have to say a word. I just wanna hold you. Summer, please open the door.

Ashley: I am so sick and tired of you trying to kick me out of my own home. And you’ve been doing this ever since you got back with diane and it’s just more evidence of how she has infected your attitude towards this whole family.

Jack: You are the one who has instigated all conflict, both with and about diane, all because I wouldn’t give into your preposterous demand that I ban the woman I love from this house. That’s not going to change. The minute diane is released, she’s coming back here.

Ashley: Are you threatening me? ‘Cause I’m not going anywhere. This is my home too, jack. It’s my birthright just as much as it is yours.

Jack: This is untenable, ash. This is not gonna work.

Ashley: Then you better move out. Why don’t you find yourself a nice little house next to whatever prison that diane is sent to once she’s convicted? And once that happens, I’m sure the jabot board will remove you before you take the entire company down with you. So yeah, you’re gonna have your nice little jailhouse wedding, but diane’s gonna cost you everything that ever meant anything to you.

Kyle: Marchetti’s operating expenses rose because the employee headcount increased when we acquired those textile factories from Newman. If you had looked carefully, you would have noticed–

Billy: That wasn’t at all condescending, was it?

Kyle: If you had looked carefully, you would have noticed that those costs are more than offset by the contractor fees. Not to mention all the other added benefits of bringing manufacturing in-house.

Billy: Yeah, see the problem with that is that historically deals between Jabot and Newman haven’t worked out very well for Jabot.

Kyle: I made that deal with victor with my eyes wide open and it led to Adam’s departure. Paved the way for your return. So, how about a thank you, instead of criticizing?

Billy: No, I’m not criticizing, Kyle. My issue is with victor. I wouldn’t put it past the guy to force a bunch of troubled properties on Jabot.

Kyle: Targeting those factories was my idea, not Victor’s. I knew exactly what I was doing. The numbers are high right now, as expected, but everything is going according to plan.

Billy: Yeah, I still think we need to pay attention–

Kyle: Billy, Billy! I don’t need your opinion. I have complete autonomy over Marchetti, so whatever you think about my business decisions doesn’t really matter.

Billy: Just trying to get the lay of land before I actually dig in.

Kyle: The land is just fine.

Billy: Good to know. Since you are in the office today, I do have an idea on how to bring jabot and Marchetti together. If you’re willing to listen.

**********************************************

Billy: This is not my first stint at Jabot.

Kyle: No kidding. You’ve been CEO how many times? Co-CEO, your mom fired you, my dad fired you. Everybody has fired you.

Billy: But there’s a positive there, I’ve learned from my mistakes. And I’m also bringing the experience that I have from working at Chancellor-Winters when they went through their merger. I know how to bring two companies together. And under the current configuration, jabot is not maximizing the potential of having Marchetti under its umbrella.

Kyle: Thanks for your input, but our strategy of keeping Marchetti and Jabot separate from the beginning has proven successful. I see no reason to change course.

Billy: Sometimes, you gotta think outside the box, Kyle.

Kyle: And what about the Jabotiques? Weren’t those another one of your failures?

Billy: I’m gonna let that one slide because you’re under tremendous personal pressure.

Kyle: Yeah, I know you pride yourself on being that guy, the innovator, the idea guy, but sometimes, outside the box is just outside of the box.

Billy: And sometimes, it’s exactly what you need. And because this idea involves both Marchetti and Jabot, you can’t unilaterally veto it.

Kyle: And by the same token, you can’t unilaterally implement it. It’s my dad’s call.

Billy: Great. I’ll talk to jack, see what he has to say.

Kyle: Fine by me.

Billy: Wonderful.

Kyle: I’m going to lunch. I know what you’re trying to do, distract me with stupid business ideas. Thanks.

Billy: You’re welcome.

Adam: Aw, you shouldn’t have. I didn’t get you anything.

Sharon: I love that every time you see a gift you just assume it’s for you.

Adam: Uh, I’m sure if you look hard enough in your psychology books, that’s probably a symptom of some disorder.

Sharon: I don’t doubt that.

Adam :So, uh, who’s the gift for?

Sharon: Um, it’s for Mariah and Tessa. It’s their surprise baby shower this afternoon. They didn’t get to have one before aria was born, so…

Adam: Mm. Afraid they might jinx things?

Sharon: In a way. They were with the baby’s mother in Portland for weeks until she went into labor, and then Mariah insisted that it wasn’t necessary. But, you know, this has been such a long journey for them. I think it’s time to just soak up the joy.

Adam: Hmm. Well, not to mention, it’s your first grandchild. How is that not reason to celebrate?

Sharon: You are absolutely right.

**********************

Victor: That spectra woman can never be trusted. Yet here she is reeling in both of my sons. To tie herself closer to our family. Why on god’s green earth would I ever approve of that?

Nikki: You wouldn’t?

Victor: Then why the hell did the rest of you decide to keep this from me?

Nikki: No, that’s not it. It’s about letting things play out on their own. I mean, someday soon nicholas is going to wake up and realize that sally is totally wrong for him. And then it will be his decision to break up with her. If we interfere, I worry that it could blow up in our faces.

Victor: Baby, what if that never happens? What if she decides to carry this charade on indefinitely?

Nick: And what charade would that be?

Victor: A charade that you are involved with, son. The hell is the matter with you? You carry on with a woman that’s pregnant with your brother’s child. Are you mad? Why are you doing this? You torment your brother.

Mariah: Hi, mom.

Sharon: Well, hey. What are you doing here?

Mariah: There’s the maternal warmth I was looking for?

Sharon: No, i am being maternal. It was just A…reflex because I know that you hate leaving Tessa and the baby at home, and who could blame you? But I’m always glad to see you.

Mariah: Well, I am going to be heading home soon, but I just wanted to come here, pick up some treats and some much-needed coffee on my way back from jabot.

Sharon: The office? Why? I thought you were on parental leave.
Mariah: I am, but, uh, with Diane’s arrest, I just thought I could put in a few hours at work. I mean, she can’t handle her own pr crisis.

Sharon: The whole situation is so horrible.

Mariah: Yeah.

Sharon: But I’m sure that jack will really appreciate you stepping up at a time like this. You know, on the other hand, it’s also okay for you to put yourself and your family first. I mean, the first few days with your new baby are so precious.

***********************************

Sharon: Oh, look how cute. I am so grateful to know this sweet little girl.

Mariah: Yeah. This is from this morning. It was her first time waking up in her new room. Although she had, uh, been up for a few hours before that ’cause she needed to be fed. And it definitely wasn’t daytime out. The sun was not out, uh, but, uh, there’s no need to get into that. I am extremely grateful for every second.

Abby: Even when they’re fussy and they’re having their meltdowns.

Mariah: Uh, though, right here, she happens to be very cute and very, very bubbly. Are they not like this all the time?

Sharon: Oh, yeah, they are. They’re always a bundle of sunshine and rainbows.

Abby: Oh, yeah, and I’ve heard they stay that way. Yeah, the terrible twos are just a myth.

Mariah: Wow. Okay. Well, the less cute moments make the cute moments 10 times better. I mean, just look at those cheeks and those eyes. Oh, God, she’s an old soul.
[Gasps] I have become one of those people that won’t stop gushing about their kid.

Abby: Well, it’s a good thing you’re with two people who can’t hear enough about her.

Sharon: I could talk about this baby 24/7.

Nikki: Well, if it isn’t the man who restored my faith in attorneys.

Michael: What could I possibly have done to be worthy of that compliment?

Nikki: Ah, it’s what you didn’t do. Now, I know you have a soft spot for Diane and I will never understand why, but the way you refused to rush to her rescue at Phyllis’s memorial, trust me, we all got the message, loud and clear. If the best attorney in genoa city thinks she’s guilty and won’t go near her with a 10-foot pole, well…

Michael: Well, yeah. Well, have a seat, please. Nikki, our constitution assures all citizens are innocent until proven otherwise, even the ones who don’t measure up or haven’t earned your seal of approval.

Nikki: According to the constitution, yes. But the founding fathers never met Diane. We know what she’s capable of. She’s dangerous and now Phyllis is dead.

Michael: Correlation doesn’t equate causation.

Nikki: Your clever tone has me a little worried. Please tell me I don’t need to be.

Michael: Last night, I got a call from jack asking me to represent Diane.

Nikki: Oh, my god. That is outrageous. Michael, you can’t defend the woman who killed one of your best friends.

**********************************

Victor: Hello, Michael.

Nikki: I can only imagine the kind of nonsense jack was trying to feed you.

Victor: Well now, Michael is a very smart man and I’m sure he would do the right thing. Right, Michael?

Michael: I probably will.

Victor: You know, otherwise, you’d have to ask for a leave of absence and then I would have to approve it and then I might be inclined to fire you.

Michael: We wouldn’t want that.

Victor: We wouldn’t, would we?

Nikki: That’s what I love about you, Michael. You always manage to do the right thing.

Michael: Your faith in my decency is humbling. I’ll do my best to live up to it. Have a good meal.

Victor: Have a good day, Michael.

Adam: No! Never.

Nick: Well, I don’t know about dad, but I’m definitely not here to see you.

Adam: Oh, well maybe you’re here to dangle some fresh new company in front of me, only to yank it away again just for fun.
Victor: Surprised to see you here, son. Especially with that lady.

Sally: Adam and I just ran into each other.

Adam: That’s right. I, uh, I insinuated myself into sally’s private tea time. You know how pushy I can be and she was too nice to ask me to leave, but I will not keep her any longer. She’s all yours.

Mariah: Oh. You thought you were gonna see the baby tonight? At this hour? No, no, no. I sent Tessa and the baby to the tack house. That’s okay, right?

Sharon: You are teasing me, right? Stop, where are they? Are they waiting outside? ‘Cause I’ll go out there and get them myself.

Mariah: No, no, no, no, no. Hold your horses. I will text her to come in. I just wanted to come in first to make sure the place was warm enough and, you know, there wasn’t anybody with any strong perfume, or nobody was, like, hacking up a lung. I know, I sound ridiculous. It’s a little embarrassing.

Sharon: No, no, it’s perfectly normal. You sound like a first-time parent. But now that you see none of those horrors are going on in here, bring her in here. Hurry up! I can’t wait to meet her.

Mariah: Well, there’s, uh– there’s no need. Ta-da.

Tessa: Hey, Sharon.

Sharon: Hi, Tessa. Finally. Oh, my gosh. Aw.

Mariah: Well, here she is. Meet Aria Porter Copeland.

Sharon: She is perfect. She’s absolutely perfect.

Tessa: Isn’t it crazy how pink her lips are? They’re so perfect.

Mariah: It’s the cheeks that get me.

Tessa: The cheeks, I know.

Mariah: The cheeks, they’re just so round. There are times, I wonder…

****************************

Nick: I know I’m not the most observant guy in the world, but even I could see the smudge of lipstick on Nate’s neck. What about the button you missed there? And what in the hell is going on with your hair? Is that the way you normally wear it?

Victoria: Fine. You got me.

Nick: You think?

Victoria: Look, why are you freaking out about this? When you have other things that you should be concerned about. Why are you not focusing on your family right now?

Nick: You are my family. I care about you. You’re making a terrible mistake.

Victoria: Well, there you go again, making another leap without any evidence to back it up.

Nick: He is in a relationship, Vic, with my friend.

Victoria: Yeah, yeah, I know. And you– you have a saintly past, free of guilt. Right, nick?

Nick: Well, he’s an executive here. He could have some ulterior motive. Maybe, uh, looking for some personal gain.

Victoria: What gain? That’s not Nate. That’s not who he is. Look, if he was up to something, I would know it anyway.

Nick: Oh, like you saw everything that was going down with Ashley?
Victoria: That was a completely different situation, and don’t you ever mention his name to me again. Do you understand?

Nick: [Sighs] Yes. Sorry. But this could be more of the same, you know?

Victoria: I’m not interested in your opinions or your judgment. I’m just not. I– I… you yourself had a relationship with the ceo of newman media, remember? And you– you firmly told me to stat out of it
And I have been nothing– nothing but respectful of your relationship with Sally.

Nick: Yes. And I appreciate it.

Victoria: So, would you please show me the same courtesy? You told me to keep quiet about her pregnancy and that adam is the father and I have done that. So, please, do the same for me. Keep my private life private. Do you understand, Nicholas? Now, if that’s everything, I– I have some things that I need to finish.

Abby: Do you believe all this stuff? I mean, this is insane. I am insane. My stuff, it’s grown exponentially. All my clothes, all of my shoes and don’t even get me started started on Dominic’s things. This is what happens when you have two of everything. One for when he’s with me, one for when he’s with you. I mean, uh, what are we gonna do? We need more storage? Do I need to rent another place downstairs for extra storage?

Devon: Hang on. Shh. Get your breath, okay? Welcome to your home.
Abby: Aw.

****************************************

Daniel: Um, I think that’s maybe my cue to speak. You know my mother, um, I don’t really know if I could sum mom up in mere words. A friend of mine once described her to me as fierce. I would definitely say that that is an understatement. You know how when you’re a kid, you think that your mom is the most beautiful person in the world. That’s how I saw her. That’s how I’ll always see her. You know, this is, um… just paint and paper. Um, it resembles her. But my mom, she… she was an adventure. I mean, she crackled, she dazzled.

[ Chuckling ]

She was unpredictable– you know, at the center of all of that there– there was this intense, just laser focused love. And it was that intensity that touched everything that she did, for better or for worse. I need to tell you, sometimes it was really hard to– to watch her just waste that brilliance. That sheer power that she had on the wrong things because she was that amazing. She really was and she shouldn’t be gone. No, I mean, not yet. Yeah, even in this, um, horrible, senseless death, I feel like she’s still trying to teach me. You know, she’s trying to teach me how to love better and to fight harder for and I feel like she’s trying to teach me how to protect the ones that you love and care about the most with everything that you’ve got. I just wish I could have learned those lessons while she was still alive. And I’m sorry. I’m sorry that I didn’t understand. I’m sorry that we fought. I’m sorry that I spent so much time away from you and I’m sorry that I won’t get any more time with you. I love you, mom. I always will. Why give your family just any eggs

Nick: Why don’t you, uh, grab a table and I’ll order?

If you need anything at all, please don’t hesitate to ask, and feel free to give me a job at the memorial. I would really like to be useful in some way.

Summer: To be honest, Sally, it never occurred to me that you would come to the memorial, when you so clearly don’t belong. You know we’re mourning my mother. Do you really think that she would want you there? Especially now that you’ve glommed onto my father. I hate that he is still with you when you’re pregnant with Adam’s baby. That is who you should be with. Adam. Because the two of you deserve each other. So, please just stay far, far away.

Nick: Hey, the, uh, barista had a question about your order.

Sally: Yeah.

Nick: What are you doing?

Summer: Everybody’s been telling me to stop being so stoic, so I was just sharing how I felt. You don’t seem to like that either.

Nick: Look, if you need someone to take something out on, I am right here. I mean that. Whatever I can do to help. Is there any part of the service I can take off your hands?

*********””*********************

Sally: First, some ground rules.

Adam: Oh. Should I, uh, take some notes?

Sally: I don’t want to talk about Nick and me. Or you and me. And anything too serious is off limits. I really need less stress in my life right now.

Adam: What about babies? Parenthood? I mean, I could let you in on some of my trade secrets.

Sally: Please do. ‘Cause I could use some. When I think about all that I don’t know, it scares the crap out of me.

Adam: [Chuckles] Well, you and everyone else who is new to this. I mean look, even if you’ve read every book there is on this, when the kid arrives, it still throws you. Plus, every kid is different. So, whatever you’ve read or you’ve heard or you have planned to do, I mean, within the first few months it’s– gets thrown completely out the window.

Sally: So, learn to roll with the punches?

Adam: Mm. Exactly.

Sally: Mm. Well, that’s actually my forte.

Adam: Look, everyone’s a beginner. They just learn on the job. And eventually, the kid is gonna get older, and then you will become an expert on potty training, nighttime routines, discipline, homework, carpooling. You will not realize how boring your conversations have become, but how fascinating you still think they are.

Victoria: Well, imagine that. The daughter of two unstoppable powerhouses, and… the granddaughter of an unmovable force wanting to take on the world herself.

Nick: What do you think I should do?

Victoria: Maybe don’t hover so much. Just give her a little space and make sure that you keep an eye on her, though, in case she’s taking on too much.

Ashley: Yeah. Seems to me though, you’ve forgotten about all the people you say you care about ever since you got back involved with Diane.

Jack: That is not true, Ash.

Ashley: I think it is, Jack. I almost expected to find you down here consoling her because your big engagement news got overshadowed by Phyllis’s dying.

Jack: It is amazing to me even at a time like this, my own sister can’t set aside her vitriol for the woman I love.

Ashley: Oh, God.

Ashley: You brought Diane into our company, then into our home, and now you wanna make her a member of our family. When is it enough? When is the damage that she’s caused to all of us enough?

Jack: I am not having this conversation.

Ashley: Let’s just be honest, Jack. After all the stress and anxiety that Diane caused Phyllis all these months, is it really just a coincidence? You announce your engagement to Diane and Phyllis collapses and then dies?

Jack: You have no evidence of that. That is speculation.

Ashley: I don’t have to speculate about all the misery that she’s brought to us because I have personally lived it. And now, you’re willing to turn your back on everyone and everything that you say you care about and you still wanna marry her.

Jack: That is enough.

Ashley: It’s not enough because I can’t get through to you and nobody can get through to you. I’m worried for you. I’m worried that you’re gonna suffer the same consequences of being involved with Diane that Phyllis did.

Lauren: [Chuckling] Oh, this is me being nice, darling. You know, back when Diane resurrected herself, Jack was adamant. He said to me that he would never let her back into his life, that that door was shut tight.

Michael: Hurrah for second chances. And even ninth or tenth chances.

Lauren: [Sighs] I just hope he knows what he’s doing.

Michael: Jack’s a big boy. This ain’t their first time around, you know.

Lauren: Still, it’s Diane.

Michael: Alright. Personally, I think they look great together.

Lauren: Really?

Michael: Mm-hmm.

Lauren: Because if Phyllis walked in right now and saw them together, all hell would break loose. [ Sighs ]

Audra: Hmm. Victoria doesn’t seem to be wasting any time.

Elena: Audra, stop.

Audra: I’m just stating a fact. Victoria is someone you’ll want to keep your eyes on.

Elena: If you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go join my boyfriend. Hi.
Nate: Hey, beautiful. I am so glad you made it.

Elena: Wouldn’t miss it for the world.

Phyllis: You will never in a million years guess what I found in Diane’s purse.

Jeremy: You were rummaging through her purse?

Phyllis: A big, fat diamond engagement ring. That was in her purse.
Jeremy: Huh.

Phyllis: She did it! She got Jack to propose to her. So, I was right all along. That was her goal — to come here and con Jack and everybody else in this town. And she has a big diamond ring to prove it.

Jeremy: All of her dreams are coming true.

Phyllis: Her dreams are my nightmares. There’s no way in hell I’m letting this happen.

Jeremy: That must be the news she was talking about.

Phyllis: Of course. Of course. She was gloating in advance. This was her “news.”

[Sighs heavily] I’m just thinking of my future family events, how I have to sit there and make nice and ta– oh, I’m not even gonna be invited. Forget it. I will never see my daughter again. I will never have a relationship with my daughter again. I am not letting this happen! This will not be ignored, Jeremy! This evil must be eradicated.

Jeremy: Okay. Well, then it’s a good thing our plan will stop Diane dead in her tracks.

**********************************

Phyllis: I mean, I know exactly what this woman’s gonna do. She’s
gonna make this whole gala about her and her engagement. She’s gonna celebrate. “Hey, I’m back from the dead, and I’m also the newest member of the Abbott family,” with this big, disgusting ring on her finger.

Jeremy: She is insufferable. I mean, the fact that she’s being so unjustly rewarded despite all the crimes she’s committed and all the lies she’s told.

Phyllis: I don’t understand this. I don’t understand why I’m the only one who sees her for who she is. I don’t get it.

Jeremy: You’re not alone anymore, Phyllis. You got me. And if she’s planning this big announcement tonight, I think it’s only right that we make our move, as well, to balance the scales of justice.

Phyllis: Okay. I mean, everything has to go as planned. It has to because if this blows up in my face…

Jeremy: That’s the beautiful thing about a masquerade ball. I can work my magic, and no one will even know I was there.

Billy: Hey, I didn’t expect you in the office today.

Kyle: Somebody’s got to run marchetti.

Billy: How are you– uh, you know what? Forget it. I’m not even gonna ask because I’m sure you’re sick of it.

Kyle: Yeah, it doesn’t help. What am I supposed to say? My mother’s being charged with killing my mother-in-law. She didn’t do it, but my wife thinks she did and so, until she’s proven innocent, my life is hanging on by a thread and so is my marriage.

Billy I’m really glad I didn’t ask. Still, I’m surprised you’re here.

Kyle: I need a distraction.

Billy: Well, I got one for you. Can you tell me what the hell is going on with marchetti’s operation budget from last quarter?

Abby: Hi, welcome.

Mariah: Hello. Wow, greeted at the door. Don’t we feel special?

Tessa: Sorry. We were a little late. Somebody was feeling fussy.

Mariah: Mm, guilty as charged. I changed my clothes like three times and it’s just lunch, but we don’t get out much these days. But we have the best reason in the world for staying in.

Abby: Oh, let me see her. Let me see her. Oh, my gosh. Look at this little sleeping beauty. Oh, she’s a little angel.

Tessa: Aria was such a party animal before we left, but we put her in the stroller and it put her right out. I’m afraid she’s gonna sleep straight through her first girl’s lunch.

Mariah: Thank you for the invite by the way.

Abby: I’m just glad you could make it. Shall we?

Tessa: Yeah.

Mariah: All right, let’s go.

Abby: Perfect.

All: Surprise!

Tessa: Oh, my gosh.

Abby: Welcome to your baby shower.

Tessa: Oh, my gosh.

Mariah: This is incredible.

Jack: How are you?

Diane: I’m okay.

Jack: How can you possibly be okay? Wrongly locked up, the press having a field day with wild speculations. The other inmates giving you a hard time?

Diane: No, jack. It’s all right. I, um, I can take care of myself. You don’t need to worry about me.

Jack: Whatever you need, I will use every connection I have to make this easier for you.

Diane: Jack.

Jack: We’ll get you more outdoor time. We can get you better accommodation.

Diane: Jack, please. Please just stop. There’s only one thing you can do for me.

Jack: Okay, name it.

Diane: Don’t come back.

Chance: I don’t think diane acted alone. She may have been the one that poisoned phyllis, but I think stark was in on the murder with her.

Christine: What has you so convinced?

Chance: Well, think about it. We don’t have a trace on this guy. He transferred all of the money that he got from phyllis out of our accounts, checked out of the grand phoenix, vanished into thin air. Does that sound like an innocent guy to you?

Christine: No, it doesn’T.

Chance: If he’s trying this hard to cover his tracks, I guarantee you he’s up to something.

Christine: I mean, it looks suspicious and I’m willing to consider the fact that diane and stark were co-conspirators, but I need more than your gut feeling to pursue charges against this guy.

Chance: Our only link to stark is diane. So, let’s put some pressure on her, you know, see what she knows. Give her a big enough incentive to flip, get her talking.

Christine: That would require a deal for leniency. And given the nature of the crime, it’s a non-starter.

Chance: But it might be worth it if we can get stark.

Christine: Diane has been locked up since before stark disappeared. So phone calls, visits, letters, they were all monitored. There’s no way they’ve been in contact.

Chance: What if they plan to split the inheritance? He makes an escape with the funds, they meet up later. If that’s the case, diane would know exactly where that guy’s hiding.

Michael: Did somebody mention my client’s name? Okay everyone, our mission is complete balanced nutrition.

Mariah: Thank you. Guys, this is awesome. You’re– you’re crazy. You’re crazy.

Tessa: You tricked us.

Abby: Well, this was all sharon’s idea. I am just so happy that I could help and I did have an ulterior motive because I wanted to meet this precious little angel. And I’m just so happy that she’s not gonna sleep through her entire shower.

Mariah: You know, I think I am totally rocking this sash. I’m not gonna take it off. Abby, you can throw us parties any time you want. Please. I just, I’m– I’m so grateful and I’m floored given everything that’s going on that– that you guys wanted to come together for us.

Sharon: Well, we could all use a little joy right now. A reminder of how wonderful life can be and there is nothing happier than a brand-new baby.

Abby: That is for sure. Well, we have all sorts of ways to welcome baby aria to genoa city. We have games, we have crafts, we have food. But first, a toast. To the new mamas, from mariah’s mama. Cheers.

All: Cheers. Cheers.

Michael: So, what did I miss?

Chase: Well, we were just wondering how diane was getting along in prison.

Michael: Ah. Sure you are.

Chase: Has she been in contact with anyone on the outside?

Michael: Well, just come out and ask your questions, detective. Don’t beat around the bush. Not one for subtlety, is he?

Chase: Answer the question, michael, has she?

Michael: I have no idea what you’re talking about and even if I did, I would never violate attorney-client privilege. However, if this was a preview of something you’ll be presenting at my client’s trial, I appreciate the heads up. Not that there should even be a trial.

Christine: Oh, wow. Finally, something we agree on. Diane could save everyone so much trouble if she just pled guilty. Is that something you and your client are ready to consider?

Jack: What do you mean don’t come back? There is no way I am going to abandon you.

Diane: You wouldn’t be abandoning me. You would be honoring my request.

Jack: I am not gonna let you do this, diane. I’m not gonna let you push away the people that love you.

Diane: I could be here a very long time.

Jack: No, no, you are innocent and kyle and I are going to help michael prove it.

Diane: There’s so much evidence against me.

Jack: It is manufactured evidence, planted by a criminal. We’re gonna prove that stark framed you and murdered phyllis himself. Look, it may take some time, but sooner or later–

Diane: Jack, stop it. I’m not getting out of here any time soon and you know it. I’ve been denied bail.

Jack: I know.

Diane: And a murder trial takes a really long time to prepare and my court date could be in ages.

Jack: However long it takes, I will be by your side. So will kyle. You can’t do this alone. Let us support you.

Diane: I love you for wanting to come to my rescue, but the only way I’m going to be able to survive this is if I just keep my head down and just forget about life outside this–

Jack: No, no. Absolutely not.

Diane: You know why? Because seeing your face and your eyes and hearing your voice, it– it doesn’t bring me comfort. It’s just a reminder of everything I’ve lost.

Jack: You have not lost me. I love you.

Diane: And I love you, but we need to do this my way.

Jack: Darling, listen to me–

Diane: Jack, please. If you love me, then you have to stay away. Having diabetes can raise a lot of questions.

Michael: My client is not pleading guilty to a murder she didn’t commit.

Christine: As her attorney, you’re duty-bound to advise her that it’s highly unlikely she’ll beat the charges given the weight of the evidence against her.

Michael: You are forgetting two critical factors. Diane has a brilliant attorney and she’s innocent.

Christine: Oh, well, of course, she is. But on the off chance that she’s not, if she would just cooperate with law enforcement–

Chance: We want stark.

Christine: I would consider recommending the judge impose a shorter sentence.

Michael: Not interested.

Christine: Really? Even if that means the difference between diane having the freedom to see her grandchild again or spending the rest of her life in prison?

Jack: Hey, it’s too soon to make any big decisions. It’s been a tough day. You know, being denied bail is a big deal and you need time to process that.

Diane: I– I think I’m dealing with this a little more realistically than you are.

Jack: By deciding to cut everyone out of your life? No, I mean that may sound fine today but tomorrow–

Diane: Tomorrow, what? What, jack? The sun’s going to come out and– and somehow things will be different than they are right now.

Jack: I am asking you to reconsider.

Diane: Listen to me. When I went on the run after faking my death, the only way I could survive was by shutting down. I– I had to clear my mind of any thoughts of my old life. No memories because if I allowed myself to, you know, to remember or to feel anything, it– it destroyed me.

Jack: This is a completely different situation.

Diane: No, it isn’T. Just like then, I am facing the very real possibility of spending the rest of my life away from everyone and everything that I care about. I know how this works. I know what I have to do.

Jack: Cut everyone out of your life? Try to forget everyone?

Diane: No, I’m not doing this because you and kyle and harrison aren’t the most important things in the world to me. I’m doing this because I love you too much to– to put you through what’s ahead. I mean, look, this is a terrible place. I don’t want you here. I don’t want kyle here and I certainly don’t want harrison here. What are we gonna do, huh? We’re just gonna sit around and try to act like everything’s normal when it’s not? I’m not going to put you through that. No, this is what I need to do to survive.

Kyle: What’s your idea?

Billy: We integrate jabot’s and marchetti’s ad campaign.

Kyle: No.

Billy: You’re not even gonna hear me out? We brand jabot and marchetti as a single fashion and beauty entity. Tessa has been a knockout as a spokesmodel for marchetti. She can work for both brands.

Kyle: No stands. Not gonna happen.

Billy: You’re not even gonna think about it?

Kyle: Don’t have to. Jabot offers a wide range of lines at various price points, each designed to appeal to a different demographic. The idea is that there is something different for everybody. In contrast, marchetti is exclusively a luxury brand. Two very different entities.

Billy: See, I don’t see a problem in that.

Kyle: Okay. Customers pay a premium for our quality, our exclusivity. Linking jabot and marchetti could dilute the brand’s reputation.

Billy: You’re missing the genius part. We tailor the ad campaigns to emphasize the connection between jabot and marchetti’s top-end products. It’s aspirational. It brings more customers to marchetti and it works better for both brands. What’s not to love about that?

Kyle: Where to begin, billy?

Billy: Wasn’t corporate synergy the whole reason jabot acquired a fashion brand in the first place? This idea does exactly that.

Kyle: Wow, you’ve really been here a couple of hours and you think you have the expertise to upend our entire advertising strategy.

Sharon: It means so much to me that aria is my first grandchild. Years ago, I was the young, biological mom who made the difficult choice of adoption. And here we are, full circle. And I’m just profoundly moved that mariah and tessa connected with aria’s birth mother, delphine, and they created a bond that honors their journey together. There’s so many different ways to be a family and aria is learning that already.

[ Laughing ] You better get used to big crowds because now, you have a lot of relatives and friends. You’ve got your aunt faith, who really wanted to be here, but she had an exam. And you have the best uncle in the world.

Noah: Free babysitting.

Mariah: We’re gonna take you up on that.

Sharon: I know that your path to motherhood wasn’t easy. I saw your joy and your determination and your discontentment, but I am so thrilled to see how happy you are now that your dreams of having a family have now come true with this sweet little baby girl. And I’m so looking forward to late nights, diaper changes, first steps and then, in the blink of an eye, aria will be all grown up. I’m really honored to have the three of you in my life. To family.

All: To family.

Mariah: To family. My celebrity colorist?

Abby: As someone who hasn’t been a mom much longer than the two of you, I have learned a few things. Like every single day, in 100 different ways, your child is gonna remind you of what’s important. And there will be good days and not-so-good days and days where you feel overwhelmed, but it’s okay because it’s all part of being a mom. And you will see the world in a completely different way and the joy that it will bring you will be like nothing you’ve ever felt before.

Tessa: We are pretty blissed out.

Mariah: I mean, we could use a little bit of sleep, but it’s no biggie.

Noah: Okay, my turn. Allie wishes she could be here but she got stuck in the lab, so this is from us.

Tessa: Thank you. Let’s see. Aw.

Mariah: Oh, noah, this is awesome. Free babysitting and a library. You guys are our favorite couple.

Tessa: Oh, I cannot wait to read these to her.

Noah: So, it’s mostly classics, but some of my favorites. I always remember my mom reading those books to me when I was a kid. I loved those moments. It kind of felt like we were on some kind of adventure, you know. Now that I think about it, I mean, our life kind of was an adventure. I had my wonderful mom there to guide me every step of the way.

Sharon: I didn’t tell him to say that.

Noah: I know how lucky I am. You know, most kids don’t get that. But, aria here, she hit the jackpot. She has two of the coolest, most amazing moms in the entire world.

Kyle: And what about the jaboutiques?

Diane: Whatever you wish for and hope will happen, there’s a very good chance that I’m going to be found guilty of murder. And I will be moved to some prison, god knows where. So, not seeing each other now, it’ll just make it easier for you to move on once I’m sentenced.

Jack: To move on? You honestly think I can just forget about you after everything we have been through to find our way back to each other? I have no intention of living my life without you.

Diane: Jack, it’s for the best.

Jack: You can’t do this.

[ Chair clattering ] This is selfish.

Diane: I’m not being selfish. I’m thinking about you and kyle.

Jack: Kyle? Kyle spent decades of his life thinking his mother was dead. Can you really imagine yourself putting him through that kind of pain again?

Diane: Well, if he spends any time with me now, then it will be that much harder for him once I move to some maximum security facility. Kyle needs to get used to the idea that I’m not going to be around.

Jack: And what about harrison? How is that little boy supposed to understand his deedee suddenly disappearing? She doesn’t write, she doesn’t call.

Diane: I want to go back to my cell. Guard!

Jack: Diane. Diane, wait. Wait.

[ Chair clattering ] (Vo) at the tidy cats innovation lab.

“The young and the restless” will continue. (Lucky) uh-oh the magic’s disappearing!

[ Knock on door ]

Billy: Come in.

Chelsea: Hey.

Billy: Excuse me, how did you get past security?

Chelsea: I bribed them with dumplings. I hope it’s okay I stopped by.

Billy: It’s okay and not only because I know that that bag is coming from yang chow’S.

Chelsea: How could you tell?

Billy: ‘Cause I can smell the slippery shrimp from here.

Chelsea: Ah. Well, I figured since it’s your first day back, you weren’t thinking about lunch. So, I thought about it for you. If you have time?

Billy: I will make time on one condition.

Chelsea: What’s that?

Billy: You join me.

Chance: Michael, we are looking for information about people connected to diane, like stark. Now I think there’s more to that story than what we’ve been told.

Michael: Well, I think you’re howling up the wrong tree, detective. There’s no current connection between the two of them. Diane wishes the man had never come to town.

Christine: So she says.

Michael: Have you taken a peek at the man’s rap sheet? I think it’s obvious that stark murdered phyllis on his own and then framed diane. She’s just another one of his victims.

Christine: You’re welcome to make that defense. I don’t think you’re gonna convince a jury based on the fact that diane had means, motive, and opportunity to kill phyllis.

Michael: Oh, that’s one way of looking at it. But I prefer to think that diane helping to put stark behind bars for money laundering will go a long way to persuading the jurors that the man was out for revenge.

Christine: Argh. Um, so we’re going to trial.

Michael: Yes. And you’re gonna lose. Because the D.A.’S office and the G.C.P.D. Have fallen for obviously planted evidence. So, stop pushing diane to confess to a murder she didn’t commit, and investigate the damn crime.

Chase: Excuse me. I’m gonna let you two duke this out.

[ Indistinct whispering ]

Abby: Aw, what a cute little puppy.

Sharon: It’s a bear.

[ Noah chuckles ]

Abby: It’s still really cute.

[ All laughing ]

Elena: Oh, look at that. A real designer original.

Noah: I’m just playing around.

Elena: The man is an artist.

Mariah: All right, guys, I can’t take it anymore, so I gotta– I gotta say something. I just wanted to thank you all and let you know how grateful we are that you guys are here with your love and your support for aria. But that love didn’t just start when we brought her home. You guys have been so supportive, throughout our entire journey. And you were there through the setbacks and the obstacles, and then through the ultrasound pictures and finally, to being able to bring her home. Uh, we didn’t tell you but there was a little bit of a scare, in the delivery. Everything’s okay. It was totally fine. But the nurse said that our daughter was really lucky to have us as mothers, but… I know tessa and I feel that it’s the other way around. Because this magical little girl… deserves everything in the entire world. And all tessa and I want to do is give her everything that she deserves.

Noah: Spoken like a true mama bear.

[ All laughing ]

Tessa: Well, uh, other mama bear would like to say something, too.

Mariah: Yeah.

Tessa: If that’s okay? Um, sharon mentioned the different ways to be a family–

[ Aria cooing ]

[ Tessa chuckles ] And, um, I, uh, never had much luck with my biological family, except for my sister, crystal. I spent years on my own. I never trusted anyone. I never even tried to connect. And then I moved to genoa city and met my family. And each one of you is a member. Well, mariah and I have just dreamed about this moment and this baby for so long, I cannot think of a better way to celebrate it than with our family. You know, we made a deliberate choice to be aria’s moms, but I– I feel on some cosmic level that our daughter chose us. Mm…

[ Mariah giggling ]

[ Aria crying ]

Abby: Hi.

Kyle: Hi. I didn’t realize there was a private event. I’ll leave.

Abby: No, no, no, I’m sorry, I was gonna invite you. I just didn’t think you’d want to come with everything going on.

Kyle: Well, I’m thrilled for mariah and tessa, but I’ll find someplace else to get lunch.

Mariah: Hey, you. You are not getting out of here without talking to me. Hi.

Chelsea: So, first day back. Highlights, insights.

Billy: Hmm. Well, I already managed to get into an argument, but I kept my cool and I handled it peacefully. So, I think that’s progress.

Chelsea: Excellent.

Billy: Yeah.

Chelsea: And it seems you’re enjoying the work.

Billy: I am. Yeah, very much so. You know, it’s not just about pushing paper and numbers and figures. I– I really believe that I can make a difference here.

Chelsea: Well, look at you. It seems like you landed in the– a satisfying career you were always hoping for.

Billy: Yeah, right here in my own backyard.

Chelsea: Mm-hmm.

Billy: How about you? How’s the video game coming?

Chelsea: I’m loving it. I’m creating a world, you know, a community I feel I can– I can really make a difference in. I’ve never been so excited about a project. Uh, the only problem is we’re in a bit of a holding pattern right now, but…

Billy: Why is that?

Chelsea: Well, phyllis’s death, you know. Daniel’s still grieving so I don’t feel comfortable approaching him about work stuff right now.

Billy: No, that’s true. It’s very sensitive of you. How does that make you feel?

Chelsea: How does that make me feel? Look at you with the therapy speech.

Billy: You’re right. This is not a counseling session. This is lunch.

Chelsea: No, that’s okay. I will tell you exactly how I feel. Um, I’m feeling a little impatient, to be honest with you.

Billy: Okay.

Chelsea: I wish things were moving forward more quickly, but I also realize it’s just a bump in the road. I can deal. There’s no reason to freak out. Everything will come together. And I truly have confidence that the project will be all the better for it in the end.

Billy: So–

Chelsea: Mature, right?

Billy: And wise.

[ Chelsea laughs softly ] I am in awe of how strong you have become.

Chelsea: Well, I got you, mr. C.E.O.

[ Billy chuckles softly ]

[ Chelsea sighs ] I mean, look at us, billy, we really did it. We helped each other through some rough times and now we’re finally getting our lives together.

Tessa: I’m so glad you could make it.

Elena: Aw, I wouldn’t have missed it. Remember when you had all of those questions about being a mother?

Tessa: Oof.

Elena: And now you and mariah are the experts of this baby girl and you always will be.

Tessa: Well, thank you for the vote of confidence. But between us, I might have accidentally woken aria up to see if she was breathing, and it might have happened more than once.

Elena: Well, you’re certainly not the first new parents to have done that. And it’s funny, infants always seem so fragile, but we both know that aria is a fighter.

[ Tessa sighs ]

Mariah: I know we’re not exactly huggers, but… kyle, I’m so sorry about your mom.

Kyle: I got your messages.

Mariah: All of them?

Kyle: Yeah, I should have called back. I just haven’t been in the space to.

Mariah: No, you’re– you’re totally fine. You’ve been going through hell.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Kyle: This looks like fun. I’m excited for you and tessa. I can’t wait to meet the newest member of your family.

Mariah: Well, the, uh– the newest member of our family is gonna be starting off her life in style, thanks to you and summer and all of the baby clothes that you guys sent us in portland. I don’t think we’re gonna have to buy aria clothes for a year.

Kyle: I’m glad you like them.

Mariah: Hey, I just– I want you to know that I’m here if you need anything. You know that, right? And summer, too. I– I promise to be a good friend to her. I– I just can’t imagine what she’s going through. Thank god she has you.

Michael: Whatever happened to that kind, compassionate christine who was the champion of the underdog?

Christine: She represents the people of genoa city, which means ensuring that wealthy, well-connected murderers don’t get off on ridiculous plea deals.

Michael: Ooh. Returning to the D.A.’S office has brought out that judgy, self-righteous streak of yours. Between you and me, didn’t miss it.

Christine: Oh, come on. You had a moral compass when you were D.A. Now you just sell off to the highest bidder. I mean, helping victor with some shady deals is one thing, but representing a killer like diane is another.

Michael: Need I remind you that every person accused of a crime is entitled to a vigorous defense? And proving someone’s innocence, that’s pretty noble, in my opinion.

Christine: Mm. Yeah, especially when you’re getting paid very well for it. I think we’re done here. Oh. Just know my door is always open whenever diane’s ready to confess.

Michael: Hmm. Wouldn’t that solve all your problems? See you in court.

Jack: We need to get diane another bail hearing, now! I used to pre-rinse dishes cause my old detergent

[ All giggling and chatting ]

Kyle: Summer’s really struggling, shutting down, practically hiding in her room. And I know she needs space to grieve, but, mariah, this just seems off.

Mariah: Have you tried talking to her?

Kyle: I want to. But it’s kind of hard when she thinks my mom killed hers.

Mariah: Yeah, that’s not complicated at all.

Kyle: And I tried making summer understand that it’s absurd, but she’s only seeing what she wants to right now. I have to prove my mother isn’t guilty. If I don’t, I don’t know how my marriage survives.

Mariah: Well, the one thing that I can say about summer for sure is she is tough, as tough as they come. And she loves you just as much as you love her. So, you guys are gonna be fine. You’re gonna get through this.

Kyle: I appreciate you saying that. But I’ve taken up enough of your time. You need to get back to the onesies.

Mariah: Oh, no, no, no, please stay. I promise you, one goofy little baby shower game, it’s gonna crack that smile wide open.

Kyle: I would only bring down the mood, but congrats on your baby girl. What a wonderful life she has ahead of her.

Christine: Jack, I warned you about this and I’m sorry, but the judge determined diane was too much of a flight risk to be granted bail.

Michael: The judge made that decision based on your argument at the arraignment.

Christine: And I stand by it. We know diane’s history.

Jack: That is ancient history! I was just with diane. She is not doing well.

Christine: Well, she’s in jail. No one does well there.

Jack: She’s innocent, christine. She doesn’t belong behind bars. Is there any way we can get to this judge? Get her to change her mind? Convince her to grant diane bail?

Michael: I’ll do my best, jack, but the facts haven’t changed. Therefore, it’s highly unlikely the judge will change her decision.

Jack: So what? We do nothing? No, that is not an option. You find this judge, you tell her I will personally pay for whatever bail is set. A million, five, ten, it does not matter. Diane will wear an ankle monitor. They can post an officer to watch her 24/7. I’ll pay the salary. Get something done now, michael. Diane has to come home.

Next week on “the young and the restless.”

Victoria: I’m asking if you’d like to join me on a business trip. There’s no– nothing left for me. There’s no place for me here.

Ashley: There might be a place for you. Why don’t you move in with me?

Summer: Is this for real? Mom, are you real?

Phyllis: I’m real.
