Diane: Despite what you might think, billy, jack and i are getting married today because we love each other. There’s– there’s no games, no hidden agendas, except, I don’t know, maybe to prove to you all that our love is strong and to get you to just leave us alone!

Ashley: Bravo! My god, that was good, diane. One of your very, very best performances.

Jack: Stop it, ashley, right now.

Ashley: Do you really think we’re going to buy into this charade, jack?

Jack: I don’t care what you buy, this love is real. And nothing you can do or say is going to change that fact.

Billy: I think that’s the problem, jack.

Jack: Who the hell asked for your opinion?

Billy: What, am I no longer a member of the abbott family?

Jack: What, you can’t see what’s going on here? Tucker and ashley are using diane to get their greedy hands on our family’s business.

Billy: All I’m seeing is you blindly jumping off a cliff.

Jack: No, my eyes are wide open. I cannot believe I’m hearing this out of you.

Ashley: You’re just as melodramatic as she is.

Jack: And you are a hypocrite. I can’t believe you’re trying to take the high road when you’re doing business and god knows what else with this cretin.

Tucker: I’m just standing here.

Jack: You feel free to leave any time you like.

Ashley: He’s not going anywhere, jack.

Jack: Oh, you two so richly deserve each other.

Ashley: I’m the one who has their eyes wide open and not you. You’re the fool.

Traci: What’s going on here? Please stop. Can’t you give them one day? Can’t you give jack and diane one day of happiness without trying to tear each other apart? Thank you.

Tucker: Pleasure to see you. Congratulations in advance.

[ Door shuts closed ]

Audra: You know, eventually we’re going to have to limit these delightful afternoon escapes and actually get some work done.

Kyle: I find myself inspired and excited by these meetings. Besides, we have all afternoon to work.

Audra: I– I know, kyle, but we need to bring our a game for the next few months. Adam and his new company are dead set on making newman media redundant.

Kyle: Yeah, he can try.

Audra: You seem pretty confident.

Kyle: I beat him once. There’s no doubt in my mind I can do it again.

Adam: Apparently, you wasted no time telling victoria about my idea to merge our new company with newman media.

Victor: Of course, I did. She’s the ceo of my company, son.

Adam: You knew damn well that she was going to tell nate, and that nate would back audra.

Victor: I don’t give a damn who she told. It doesn’t make a bit of a difference.

Adam: I told you that in strict confidence. I mean, knowledge is power, isn’t that what you– you have always preached to us? And now, you just took it away from me and you gave it to the enemy.

Victor: Please have a seat. Son… why do you continue to perceive the other divisions of newman enterprises as your enemies? I mean, you’re a part of the company. What’s the matter with you?

Adam: All I see right now is you disregarding my judgement, once again.

Victor: I told you that I would fold your company, your new company that I gave to you into newman enterprises. Then, I asked you and sharon and nick to work together for three months collaboratively, productively, all right? But that can’t happen if you keep on bulldozing over anyone that you perceive to be enemy.

Adam: I haven’t bulldozed over anybody.

Victor: Son, you’re about to do it. I know you. Ain’t gonna work. If you can’t see how good it is to be united as a family, how productive that is, then I’m going to have to change your perspective.

[ Audra sighing ]

Audra: So, how exactly did you beat adam?

Kyle: By playing the long game. Giving him enough rope to hang himself, which he eventually did. Then, it was easy to take advantage of the situation and force him out of jabot.

Audra: Easy, huh?

Kyle: Look, adam is not that complicated of a guy. He’s an angry boy with daddy issues and a short fuse. He’ll self-destruct if you give him the chance. Once he does, you show him the door.

Audra: Ooh. You have more of a ruthless streak than I thought. I like it.

Ashley: Hi.

Abby: Hi!

Ashley: I’m sorry I’m late.

Abby: Oh, that’s okay. I just got here. So I have a list of wedding planners, but I need to know what you and tucker are thinking for the ceremony. Obviously, the house can accommodate whatever you’re thinking. Okay, um, what’s wrong?

Ashley: I just had a very unpleasant afternoon I spent with jack and diane.

Abby: Really?

Ashley: Yes.

Abby: What happened now?

Ashley: Jack is about to make the worst mistake of his life. That’s what happened.

[ Sighing ]

Judge: We are celebrating the marriage of jack and diane. You didn’t live this strong,

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Abby: So uncle jack and diane are getting married right now?

Ashley: In the city hall as we speak. Yes, right now.

Abby: Okay, well, that’s kind of sudden.

Ashley: Yeah, it is. And infuriating.

Abby: But it’s really not, I mean, all that sudden. I mean, it’s kind of like what you and tucker are doing, right?

Ashley: Please don’t make that comparison.

Abby: Mom, you need to calm down. Why are you so angry?

Ashley: I’m angry because I told you, my brother is about to throw away the rest of his life, honey.

Abby: But it’s his life.

Ashley: You can’t be serious.

Abby: All I’m saying is that you need to let uncle jack live his life and you can focus on your life and your happiness. I mean, do you really hate diane that much?

Ashley: This isn’t just about jack’s marriage or his life. This is about the company he’s made diane a part of. My family’s company. Our family’s company.

Abby: Right, but I mean, you and tucker are starting your own business, right? Why are you so concerned with the family’s company?

Ashley: You don’t understand.

Abby: I think I do understand, but you’re not going to like what I have to say. This anger that you have towards diane, I mean, this fury, it’s like you’re holding on to it like a blanket. But maybe it’s anger that you feel toward yourself.

[ Ashley scoffing ]

Tucker: Hey, billy. Wow, I didn’t expect to see you here now.

Billy: Why is that?

Tucker: Well, I figured you’d make an appearance at jack’s wedding. But I guess you’re as opposed to it as you claim.

[ Diane chuckling ]

Diane: We’re actually doing this, aren’t we? Oh, we’ve had quite a journey, huh? Hello, jack.

Jack: No. It can’t be.

Diane: It’s true. I’ve waited a very long time for this moment. I’m trying to make amends.

Jack: To me! Not to the people you hurt. The people you used and exploited. The people accused of your murder. All you left in your wake was heartache and fear and anger. Some of us got over it. Others, like kyle? You stole from him something he can never get back.

Diane: Back in L.A., I– uh, I hid my past. I was living a lie. I– I couldn’t get close to anybody because of it. And here in genoa city, I am dodging grenades, but I have to earn my conversations and my companionship. I have to face the damage that I’ve done head on. But being here with you today and talking about kyle and harrison and being open about my past, it… almost makes me feel normal. And, uh, gives me hope for my future.

Jack: I can see this has been tough on you. My advice? Take the clean slate kyle and I have offered you.

Diane: I appreciate you so much. You have the least reasons of anyone to make me feel worthy, believed, safe. And yet, you do. I like who I am when I’m with you. And that hasn’t been the case for a really long time.

Jack: I happen to like who I am with you, too.

Diane: When you talk to me, I believe you completely.

Jack: Good. I believe in you. It’s like this is a whole new layer to you. There was always beauty, there was always strength, there was always wit, but now there’S… this level of courage that I never expected. And I find it very attractive.

[ Diane chuckling ] I am happy. For the first time in I can’t tell you how long, I have such a positive view of the future. And I’ll tell you something else.

Diane: What?

Jack: I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure I stay this happy. Having you back in my life again has given me energy and optimism and purpose and happiness I thought I had lost forever. I will be damned if jeremy stark or anyone else takes that from us. I love you too much.

Diane: God, jack, I… I love you, too. It’s– it’s almost– almost overpowering, like, this love that’s been pent up, and it’s finally able to be free.

Jack: I have another idea. Marry me.

Diane: Jack, you’re right. This is our time, so… yes! Yes! A thousand times yes!

[ Both chuckling ] I– I’ve wanted to be your wife for so long. And finally, now here we are, right in this moment, exactly where we’re supposed to be. You and me, together at last.

[ Diane laughing ] How is this even possible?

[ Sighing ] But it is. And it’s real. And I promise… I will put our happiness above everything. And I will make our home a sanctuary for our family. We’ve– we’ve always shared a son, and now we’re going to share a life. [ Chuckling ] I really never imagined that I could be this happy, but I am. And it’s all because of you. I love you so much.

Jack: Diane, I had all but given up on sharing my life with anyone. I thought that part of my life was over. Seeing you standing here so beautiful, ready to become my bride, I could not be any luckier that I was so very wrong.

[ Diane laughing ] You’re right, it’s been a long way here. And what we have is not simple, it’s not traditional… but I wouldn’t have it any other way. You are my life. You are my heart. You are my love. I love you.

[ Diane chuckling ]

[ Diane sighing ]

Judge: Do you, jack, take diane to be your wife?

Jack: I do.

[ Diane laughing ]

Judge: And do you, diane, take jack to be your husband?

Diane: I do. [ Sighing ]

Judge: I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride!

[ Diane laughing ]

Diane: I love you. Oh, you have just made me the happiest woman in the world.

Jack: That is now my most important job in life, mrs. Diane jenkins abbott.

[ Diane giggling ] My active psoriatic arthritis

Victor: Pitting one division against the other is not part of my master plan.

Adam: Am I even part of your master plan?

Victor: Son, you need to be put in your place. You need to be taught some humility because obviously you can’t find it on your own! What I am going to change now is I’m going to put the damn brakes on this entire endeavor. That’s it!

Billy: Why would you be surprised that I didn’t support jack on his big wedding day? You were standing right there. You know exactly how I feel about it.

Tucker: It’s just been my experience that the abbott clan tends to bury the hatchet for special occasions.

Billy: Yeah, this is not a special occasion to me.

Tucker: Okay. Guess I was wrong.

Billy: Actually, the more I think about it, tucker, the more it pisses me off. Because my brother is losing his mind.

Tucker: I tend to agree. But where does that leave you exactly? You just going to have to let it go, or have you finally had enough?

Ashley: Please, I am not in the mood for your analysis, okay? Please.

Abby: Okay, I’m sorry, mom, but maybe you could just consider the possibility that– that you’re thinking it’s a mistake getting sucked back into tucker’s world again.

Ashley: I don’T.

Abby: Mom.

Ashley: We are getting married at your place. I mean, what more of a commitment do you want?

Abby: That’s not what I mean.

Ashley: Okay, well, we love each other. I told you that, didn’t I? There’s no doubts, period.

Abby: Okay. Fine.

Ashley: Fine. You don’t believe me.

Abby: Honestly, mom, I don’t know what to believe at this point. Because the other night, I’m looking at the two of you and I thought, “yeah, maybe– maybe it is true love.” But now I have to believe what is right in front of me. You are angry with uncle jack for doing the exact same thing with diane as what you are doing with tucker. Closing their eyes. You– you’re taking this leap of faith. And it’s– I don’t know, maybe my worry is what it’s been all along. That you don’t actually trust tucker.

Ashley: Okay.

Abby: And that your instincts are screaming at you to put this thing on pause.

[ Abby sighing ]

[ Door shuts closed ]

Diane: Now that we’re officially married, what happens next?

Jack: Oh, I planned a dinner at the club with all your favorite things.

Diane: That includes you, I hope.

Jack: Oh, I wouldn’t miss it for the world.

Diane: Hm. Then what?

Jack: And then champagne, maybe a little dancing.

Diane: Ah, sounds heavenly.

Jack: But first, first I want to take my beautiful wife upstairs and make love to her.

[ Both moaning ]

[ Both chuckling ]

Jack: You know what I want to do now?

Diane: Stay just like this, wrapped in each other’s arms all night long?

Jack: Exactly.

Diane: What about dinner and dancing?

Jack: Oh, we can do that any time. This is our one and only wedding night.

[ Diane chuckling ]

Diane: It’s been magical. It has.

Jack: So, can I, uh– can I take that as a yes?

Diane: Ah, well, it sounds amazing, but what about our plan? I thought that part of the reason you wanted to go out on our wedding night was so that we could stage that fight with billy for ashley’s benefit?

Jack: But we kind of did that.

Diane: Yeah, we did a pre-wedding, but now that it’s official–

Jack: Yeah, I know you’re right. We have to up the ante. We have to make it important. We have to escalate things.

Diane: And it would be a lot more convincing.

Jack: On the night of our wedding, yeah.

Diane: Yeah.

Jack: Billy has to get on the inside with ashley and tucker and figure out what the hell is planned for jabot.

Diane: Are you having second thoughts?

Jack: No, no. I just don’t want this to end. I want– I want to stay this way. You and me in each other’s arms, the world and all its troubles a thousand miles away.

Diane: I want that, too. More than you know. But this– this war with your sister is– is tearing you apart. And eventually, it’s going to tear us apart. So, we have to stop it. We have to stop her. Otherwise, we’ll never be free of it. Right?

Jack: Yeah.

Ashley: I thought you said you were happy for us.

Abby: I want to be happy for you, I do, but–

Ashley: Shh, shh.

Tucker: Hey.

Ashley: Hi.

Abby: Hi.

Tucker: Everything okay?

Ashley: Not really. I’m still trying to process that awful news about jack.

Tucker: Oh, yeah. Billy and I were just– we were just commiserating about that, weren’t we?

Billy: No, I would not say we were commiserating, tucker. In fact, let me be very clear about something, okay? You and I, we will never be friends. Just not going to happen. What I like or dislike about whatever jack is doing has nothing to do with you or your twisted agenda. All I care about is how this affects my family and you are not family. So, hear this, and remember this, everything I do, or may do in the future, is about the people I love.

[ Adam sighing ]

Adam: Can we just drop this song and dance? Are you going to pull the plug on adustus? Are you going to throw me out of the family yet again?

Victor: For your information, I have never thrown anyone out of my family, nor will I ever do so.

Adam: Yeah, that’s, um, not how it looks from my side.

Victor: Whenever you’ve left, and you have left repeatedly on your own volition… it has broken my heart.

Adam: Oh, yes. You always make that abundantly clear. Why? So we come crawling back and we have to tell you how sorry we are for breaking your heart? Dad, I am tired of crawling.

Victor: Do you know how tired I am of your attitude? I’ve tried for years to make you feel all right! I’ve tried to put you and nicholas together to work in harmony! To create harmony in this family! What do you do? You rebel! I’m tired of this! You know… to answer your question, I am not going to pull the plug on adustus-kirsten… but I am going to change your involvement in it.

Traci: Oh, my goodness, you look particularly handsome.

Jack: Thank you. And thank you for being at the courthouse with us today. That meant the world to me.

Traci: Of course. Of course, I would be there for you, jack. I can see that the love you share with diane is genuine, and I never would have predicted that.

Jack: Yeah, you and me both.

[ Traci laughing]

Traci: I’m just so glad to see you so happy. I know that diane completes that circle.

Jack: I wish the rest of the family could see what you see.

Traci: I’m sorry that ashley and billy can’t accept your joy.

Jack: Yeah, I’m afraid it’s a lot worse than that.

Traci: I know. And I hate that our family is at such odds, especially with all the work you and ashley have been doing to make peace. And now, it seems like it’s worse than ever, jack.

Jack: Yeah, I’m afraid you might be right.

Traci: Then, I’m sorry for us all.

Jack: Well, look, maybe things will calm down. Maybe ashley and i can find our way back to each other, but in the meantime, things could get really ugly and you need to prepare yourself. Wow. Moving forward with node- positive breast cancer

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Adam: So, I was right the first time. You’re cutting me loose.

Victor: No, I’m stepping in to protect you from yourself. What you do now is up to you.

[ Adam sighing ]

Adam: Why even bother? I mean, isn’t that the definition of insanity? Just repeating and repeating the same action, hoping for a different result?

Victor: Adam, then meet me halfway, son.

Adam: [ Laughing ] Listen, there is no halfway. There is your way. And I– I never seem to measure up to that.

Victor: I run this company! I run this family! I am the head of it! You have got to understand it once and for all! Stop fighting me! I’ve been hoping for years that you would get rid of your anger and resentment toward me because you grew up without a father on that farm in kansas. That’s not my fault. That’s your mother’s fault! I keep on hoping that you would become the son I always wanted you to be.

Adam: Okay, but then, what if I say you are right, I am wrong and I will let go of everything newman media. Will that change anything? I mean, not that I don’t appreciate these little pep talks, but where are we, dad, exactly? Will the adustus-kirsten deal still go through with me attached as planned?

Tucker: [ Sighs ] Gee, billy, I’m really hurt that you don’t consider me family.

Billy: I’m pretty sure you’ll get over it.

Tucker: Uh, what about diane? Do you consider her family?

Billy: No, I don’T. Actually, I consider you and diane to be in the same boat and I would love nothing more for the both of you to just drift far, far away.

Abby: Okay, on that note, this has been really fun, but I gotta go, I love you. Think about what I said. Goodbye.

Tucker: Bye.

Abby: Bye.

[ Footsteps departing ]

Billy: Still know how to clear a room, don’t you?

Audra: What do you think?

Kyle: We’ve got nothing to hide.

Audra: Not a damn thing.

Ashley: What the hell is that all about?

Tucker: Oh, that? That’s just a couple of coworkers having a platonic drink together.

Ashley: No, I don’t think so. Looks a lot friendlier than that.

Tucker: They do make an excellent couple.

Billy: Hey.

Kyle: Billy.

Billy: Hi.

Audra: Hi.

Billy: So, I take it, you didn’t make it to your mom and dad’s courthouse wedding?

Kyle: I had meetings all afternoon. Couldn’t get away.

Billy: You had meetings all afternoon? You couldn’t get away to go support your mom and dad on their wedding day? Wow. Must be a busy man, kyle.

Diane: I wasn’t expecting to see kyle here tonight.

Jack: No, I wasn’t either.

Diane: [ Sighs ] I really don’t want him around for this.

Jack: Still time to call it off.

Diane: No. Absolutely not.

Tucker: This is when the fun begins. Oh

Victor: [ Sighing ] Son… I wish I could believe it will be as easy as you suggest.

Adam: But you don’T.

[ Victor sighing ]

Victor: I’m afraid that when you suggest that you can let go of the vendetta against me and other members of the family, that you’re just paying lip service to what I want to hear, you know? And that when reality sets in, you will have come up with some other scheme to do it all your own way.

Adam: So then, what is this? Is this a farewell drink? “Thank you for your service, your termination package will be in the mail?”

Victor: No, you know what this is? It’s a warning with a caveat.

Adam: Ah. [ Chuckling ] Of course.

Victor: Listen carefully. I will put the companies together. You and nick and sharon will work under my tutelage. I will dictate the terms. You understand? I want to see… if the three of you can really work together and create a unity. Something I’ve always wanted.

Adam: Well, wow, how lucky could a black sheep get.

Victor: Those are my terms. Take them or leave them.

Adam: I look forward to your lessons. Oh, you should know, I offered phyllis summers head of it.

Victor: I’m sure that was not a joint decision, was it?

Adam: It wasn’T. I guess I just proved your point.

[ Footsteps departing ]

Diane: Kyle. I didn’t expect to see you here.

Jack: Yeah, we thought you had meetings well into the evening.

Kyle: Yeah, one of the meetings got cancelled, so audra and i decided to grab dinner. How was the ceremony?

Diane: Ah, it was– it was lovely, I– I really wish you could have been there. But traci took some pictures.

Kyle: That’s great. Can’t wait to see them.

Jack: Mm-hm. Would have been nice if you showed up.

Billy: Yeah, well, you know how I feel about this.

Jack: Yeah. I thought, maybe, you could set that aside for an afternoon and just show a little support.

Billy: Support what, exactly? A wedding I feel like is irresponsible, at best?

Jack: Easy, billy.

Billy: What, jack? You keep bringing this up like you’re going to get a different response from me. It’s not going to happen, okay? So, let me just say it again, so everyone can hear me, I think this, right here, it’s a mistake. In fact, I think it’s a joke. It’s a disaster waiting to happen. You keep trying to convince me that she’s a changed woman. I’m never going to believe that, okay? Your own son didn’t even show up.

Kyle: Hey, don’t drag me into this. I support my parents.

Billy: Really, kyle, you support your parents? You couldn’t squeeze an hour out of your day to be side by side with them? It’s because you had a voice inside telling you that she’s hurt you before and she’s going to do it again.

Kyle: You’re out of line. What the hell’s gotten into you?

Billy: Knowledge, kid. A leopard never changes its spots, okay? Especially, not that one.

Jack: Okay, that’s enough. I think you’d better leave.

Billy: Leave, jack? What, do you own the place now?

Jack: I am not going to let you destroy this evening. Take a walk.

Billy: Or what?

Jack: Or what?

Billy: Or what?

Tucker: This is getting exciting.

Billy: Open your eyes, jack.

Ashley: I’m not enjoying this, let’s go.

Billy: This woman is going to burn down everything you’ve spent your entire life working for down to the ground.

Jack: This woman is my wife, and I trust her a hell of a lot more than I trust you.

Billy: That’s not saying anything, is it? It’s a total betrayal of every person you’ve cared about, all for diane jenkins.

Jack: I don’t see it that way.

Billy: No, you don’t, jack! That’s the problem. You’re not seeing anything straight, okay? You are going to blow up this family! Kayaking is my thing.

[ Breathing heavily ]

Jack: You want to take this outside?

Billy: Let’s take it outside.

Kyle: Okay, maybe, you need to go somewhere and cool off.

Billy: That’s fine. I’ll leave, okay? She’s gonna tear it down, jack. All of it. The family, jabot, all of it. And that’s going to be on you. I’m done. I’m not following you down that rabbit hole.

Jack: I’m sorry you had to hear that.

Diane: It’s okay. I’ve heard worse.

Kyle: No, mom, it was wrong. I don’t know what the hell has gotten into billy tonight.

Tucker: Hey, jack. Looks like the rats are jumping ship.

Diane: Leave us alone.

Ashley: Diane, you’re going to be alone soon enough, believe me. The walls are crumbling down around you and we’re going to be the final wrecking ball.

[ Footsteps departing ]

Jack: I, uh– I think we need to be alone.

Kyle: Yeah, I understand.

Diane: Okay. Do you think they bought it?

Jack: I don’t know, they seemed to.

Diane: Well, I hope so.

Jack: [ Sighs ] Not exactly the way I wanted to spend my wedding night. But I hope so, too. Come on.

Ashley: What are we going to do about jack?

Announcer: Next week on the young and the restless…

Sharon: Would you ever consider leaving jabot to come work with your mother?

Lily: Since my bowl of fruit wasn’t inspiring for you… you can draw me instead.

Billy: Our sister asked me to join her version of our plan. She wants me to be a trojan horse here in jabot.

Adam: So, what is the real– real reason that you’re here?

Phyllis: I need you to find something to take tucker mccall down.

Summer: Oh, god! Oh, my god.

Kyle: Um…

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: Sorry.

Kyle: No, no, no. My bad. My fault.

Summer: No, I wasn’t paying attention.

Kyle: How’s your day going?

Summer: Having trouble with where I’m walking, apparently. You’re looking well. That’s– that’s what people say in these situations, right?

Kyle: Sure. Thanks.

Summer: Uh… harrison told me about all the rocks that he found at camp.

Kyle: Ah, yes. There are now rocks in every room of the house.

Summer: I wish I was there to see it. How– how do you think he’s doing? With the separation and everything.

Kyle: I think he’s handling it. He’s used to change.

Summer: Breakups are really hard on kids, though.

Kyle: How’s everything else?

Summer: I’m just keeping busy.

Kyle: Me too.

Audra: Good morning.

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: Do you not have somewhere else that you need to be?

Audra: I was actually on my way there.

Summer: That’s very convenient. You know, audra, your agenda is super clear. Kyle’s in a compromised state right now, but pretty soon he’s going to see it too.

Audra: Hm. Well, he looks fine to me.

Kyle: Okay, that’s enough. Just stop.

Billy: There she is. Genoa city’s fashion icon.

Chelsea: Well, that’s a bit of a stretch but keep going. Tell me more.

Billy: So, how is it? I know you were a little bit nervous to start at marchetti, but how’s it going?

Chelsea: I was definitely anxious to dive back into the fashion world, but it’s been easier than I thought. So, thank you for all the support.

Billy: Of course. Not a doubt in my mind it wasn’t going to go well.

Chelsea: Everything’s really coming together. And not just the fashion part. I mean, I’ve been working on the, um, marketing. I’ve been working on the business models, making really big decisions as creative director. I mean, I’m problem solving on a massive scale.

Billy: And rocking it, I’m sure.

Chelsea: Any insecurity I had on my first day, I just thought about that pep talk you gave me and, um, I just checked out my little charm bracelet that you got me and, uh, yeah, I walked out of that office feeling great. More confident than ever.

Billy: Happy to hear that. You deserve all your success.

Chelsea: Well, thank you. You’re my greatest cheerleader. What’s going on with you? You– you– you seem a little distracted. What is it?

Billy: Uh, well, the, uh, situation at jabot isn’t– isn’t great.

Chelsea: How so?

Billy: Jack and diane came up with a plan. They, uh, were asking for my help. I said yes, but it’s– it’s risky. There’s some high stakes maneuvering involved.

Chelsea: How is it risky?

Billy: I have to convince tucker and ashley that I’m on their side.

Diane: Oh, what? No phony compliments? No advising me about muffins in the kitchen?

Ashley: Why don’t you go choke on a muffin, diane?

Diane: [ Laughing ] Okay, let me guess. You’re just edgy because you’ve failed. You haven’t been able to gain the upper hand with jack or jabot. He refused to fire me, wouldn’t even let me quit and why you thought he would divide the family company for you is just beyond comprehension.

Ashley: But then again, there’s so many things in life that you don’t comprehend, right?

Diane: Oh, I know you. And I bet all this failure is really making you frustrated and more determined than ever to get what you want.

Ashley: You’re right, you’re right, yeah, yeah. I am determined. And I will win and you will fail and it’s as simple as that, so.

Diane: Oh, oh, by the way, um, jack and I will be out of the house this afternoon. Today is my wedding day.

Ashley: What are you talking about?

Diane: Um, we’re going to get married this afternoon at the courthouse.

Ashley: Oh, a quickie wedding.

Diane: Yeah.

Ashley: I see. One last ditch effort to get your hooks into my brother before it’s too late.

Jack: I’d like to reserve the best table for two in the lounge. It’s a very special evening for me and my soon-to-be wife. Champagne, flowers, the works. Very romantic, very simple, very lovely. I think you get the picture. Thanks for looking out for me.

Phyllis: You’re putting together a celebration. I will leave you to it.

Jack: No, wait. I think you owe me an answer or two. Let’s start with why. How could you do this? After everything we have been through. I thought I’d seen you at your worst and you dig deeper and unleash this hell on diane and your own family. Frankly, I’m amazed you could show your face in public. I have moderate to severe crohn’s disease.

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Summer: Don’t dismiss me, kyle. I know that you’re feeling all the things that I’m feeling, but you’re trying to escape by throwing yourself into whatever this is.

Kyle: Okay, summer, it is no longer your concern what I do or who I’m with. You created this situation, not me.

Summer: You’re loving this, aren’t you?

Audra: No, I actually, um, couldn’t care less. But I will say this, you know, I think, um, it’s kind of sad that you’re showing how controlling you are. Wait, didn’t you betray kyle’s trust, not the other way around?

Summer: Audra, you don’t know anything about our relationship. And I highly doubt you know the meaning of trust.

Kyle: Okay, please just stop. There’s no point in turning this into a fight.

Summer: It’s not a fight. Look, I know that I hurt you and I know that you might hate me, and that’s something that I have to live with. But I hate seeing you like this. Kyle, what are you doing? Don’t destroy your life because of what I did. You’re better than this.

[ Audra sighing ]

Audra: Now, I get it.

Billy: In the hope of undermining my sister’s attack, jack and I are going to have to stage a falling out because of his relationship with diane. At that point then, I will become a sort of a trojan horse and infiltrate tucker and ashley’s camp.

Chelsea: Wow. You know, I didn’t realize things had gotten so strained within your family.

Billy: Desperate times. And it’s a deceptive move, and not without risk. But I think it’s the right thing to do, not only to save ashley but to protect jabot.

Chelsea: So, you’re really worried about tucker’s influence on her?

Billy: I mean, she’s not thinking clearly. He’s been able to pull her in. And I’m not saying my sister’s innocent, right? She has her own checkered history.

Chelsea: Don’t we all?

Billy: But it’s nothing in comparison to what tucker is capable of. And if I’m going to the lengths that I’m about to go to, it’s all to try and expose tucker for who he really is.

Chelsea: [ Sighing ] Wow.

Billy: What do you mean by that?

Chelsea: Mm, no, nothing, I just– it’s just– it’s just a lot to take in.

Billy: It feels like there’s more to that.

Chelsea: No, I just– I mean, I understand wanting to protect your sister, of course, I do, but do you really want to get in the middle of all this? I mean, from what I’ve heard, tucker is a master at mind games.

Billy: Hopefully I can handle him.

Chelsea: Billy, you’ve come so far. I would just hate to see you stumble, and call upon some of your old demons. Ones you’re better off without.

[ Billy sighing ]

Diane: Listen, sis, getting married today was jack’s very romantic idea. He can’t wait to make things official between us.

Ashley: Shocking.

Diane: Yeah, he’s determined to prove to you and all the other naysayers how real and true our love is.

Ashley: Just great, diane.

Diane: Oh, if it’s any consolation, you do have a new ally. Billy made it very clear to jack that he was not happy with the way jack is handling things.

Ashley: Yeah, billy is the voice of reason. Who would have thought. If my other brother would open his eyes and realize he’s going to lose everything because of you, you stupid bitch.

Diane: [ Laughing ] Wow. Ashley, you’re the one who’s losing everything. But you know what? It’s not too late to change your mind.

Ashley: Diane, there’s no scenario where this ends well for you. You don’t get that, though, do you? Because you’re out of your league. You’re in over your head. And the sooner you realize that and get it through your thick skull, the better off we will all be. Please just move on.

[ Door shots closed ]

Diane: Hm.

Phyllis: Listen, jack, um, I know you’re angry with me. You have every right to be. I deserve it, I do. I never intended for any of this to happen.

Jack: No, you never do.

Phyllis: Okay, well, jeremy stark was manipulating me and he was threatening me, he was threatening my family. He made me do all those horrible things.

Jack: I have a hard time believing that stark got the best of somebody as savvy and clever and manipulative as you are. Given how much you despise diane, I guess there wasn’t a lot of coercion.

Phyllis: You’re right. I mean, I was blinded by anger and rage. That’s true. But, you know, my kids abandoned me. Everybody I cared about abandoned me. And, you know, that doesn’t matter. That doesn’t matter. I– I deserve all of this. Listen, I just want to know if you can find it in your heart to forgive me like you did diane.

Jack: Now, those two situations are very different and you know that.

Phyllis: I’m trying. Maybe you can meet me in the middle.

Jack: You created the situation you were in. You made a choice to punish everyone around you because you couldn’t let go of a decades-old feud. Nobody forced you to do anything. You knew the consequences of your choices. You caused our children’s marriage to fall apart.

Phyllis: I really didn’t intend for that to happen. I’m going to make it up to–

Jack: No, no, don’T. You’ve done quite enough.

Tucker: That went well.

Phyllis: I wasn’t expecting to see him. He caught me off guard.

Tucker: Caught you off guard. Hm. You know what else might catch you off guard, phyllis? When carson doesn’t show up at your trial to testify on your behalf. Are you prepared for that? Are you prepared for prison?

Phyllis: I just started doing this, okay? I’m going to turn things around. Relax.

Tucker: You’re not off to a good start, are you? He doesn’t appear even to be ready to give you the benefit of the doubt, let alone forgive you. I’m wondering if I made a mistake.

Phyllis: What does that mean?

Tucker: If you’re not going to fulfill your end of the bargain, I don’t know what good you are to me. (Wheezing)

Phyllis: Listen, I know jack very well, okay? Um, I can get him where you want him.

[ Phyllis sighing ] We’ll be best buds. He’ll be calling me red.

Tucker: Mm-hmm.

Phyllis: That will drive diane crazy. That’s what you want, right?

Tucker: “Will be, will be, will be, will be.” Yeah, right. You talk a big game. Can you back any of it up?

Phyllis: You will get full forgiveness and acceptance. Whatever jack and diane decide to do from there is on them, it’s not on me. I’m not continuing a war with that woman.

Tucker: Far be it from me to ask you to go above and beyond, phyllis.

Phyllis: Okay, I want to ask you a question. What if it doesn’t bother diane that jack forgives me? What if she doesn’t care? Where does that leave me and our arrangement?

Tucker: I don’t know. I’ll have to think about it.

Lauren: You know, I’ve– I’ve really been afraid to see you. Because I’m caught between my love for you and how much I’ve missed you.

Phyllis: I missed you. I missed you so much.

Lauren: And my rage at what you’ve done and put all of us through.

Phyllis: I missed you.

Lauren: I missed you.

Phyllis: I’m so sorry. I love you and michael so much. I love you so much. And if I have to spend the rest of my life making it up to you, I will. I promise you.

Lauren: I’m so relieved you’re home. And you, listen to me. You need to put your trust in heather. And you need to listen to everything that she tells you to do because she’s your best chance right now.

Kyle: Hey, I’m, uh, I’m sorry you had to witness that.

Audra: Oh, no, I– I’m fine. But, um, you’re clearly not. Summer is still getting under your skin, isn’t she?

[ Kyle chuckling ]

Kyle: You know, sometimes it’s, um, it’s hard to let go.

Audra: Yeah, I– I know what that’s like. You know, I, um, I went through it with noah.

[ Audra sighing ] That was one of the few times, if not only time, I’ve ever really been in love.

Kyle: Hm.

Audra: And that situation taught me, um, just how dangerous love can be.

Kyle: Yeah, well, falling for someone can be the greatest and the worst thing.

Audra: I handle things differently now. You know, I had to learn how to put myself first.

[ Sighing ] You know, I rather focus on the things that bring me pleasure and excitement, personally and professionally.

Kyle: That sounds like a wise course of action.

Audra: I find it’s better to, um, be selfish than to get hurt. Because pain can be distracting and cause you to make mistakes.

Kyle: I see the logic in that, but I don’t know if I’m ready to live my life that way.

Audra: Maybe not yet.

[ Summer sighing ]

Chance: Hey, summer.

Summer: Hey.

Chance: You all right?

Summer: Yeah, I just, uh… I had a weird encounter on the way over here and I guess I haven’t shaken it off yet.

Chance: You know what? This kind of reminds me, the other day I got home after a, uh, really long day at work, right? I’m putting dominic down and he’s looking up at me, at my sad, grumpy, face, right? And he reaches out and he…

[ Whooping ] He moves my mouth into a smile just like that. It was crazy.

Summer: He did not!

Chance: He did, I swear, it was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. He did, on my life. Cracked me up.

Summer: Oh, my god. Harrison would sometimes do stuff like that. He– he would go out into the backyard and pick flowers and bring them to me in a little bouquet when I was in a bad mood.

Chance: That’s sweet. You know, kids, they, uh, really put things into perspective, don’t they?

Summer: It’s true. Thanks.

Chance: What?

Summer: I don’t know, for not, uh, running in the other direction when you’re faced with my stormy mood.

Chance: Yeah, well, I’ve been there. I get it. So, if I can ever help ease the moment, I’m happy to do it.

Jack: Hey! Everything is set for our courthouse marriage later today and I have a little surprise for you after.

Diane: Aw, you have thought of absolutely everything, haven’t you? Well, I reached out to kyle and asked him to meet us over here. I hope– hope he’s excited that his parents can’t wait another minute to get married.

Jack: Oh, I’m sure he will be thrilled for us.

Diane: Oh, and I ran into ashley earlier. She reacted as you would have expected.

Jack: I hope she wasn’t too harsh with you.

Diane: Oh, no, same old, same old. Nothing I haven’t heard before. But, um, I did hint to her how troubled billy was by the situation.

Jack: Good thinking.

Diane: Yeah. I think we should put things in motion with billy as quickly as possible. And, you know, this quickie courthouse wedding could be the perfect impetus for your fight with him.

Jack: I don’t want anything to get in the way of our happiness today. Even a fake fight with billy for ashley. It– it just seems wrong, like we would taint the beauty of the moment.

Diane: No, no! That’s not going to happen. No, we’re not going to let anything ruin our day. But I– I think we should do this quickly because I really see it as the only way out. The chance to put ashley in her place so that she will finally leave us alone.

Jack: Yeah, yeah. That’s all I want. Some peace in this family so that you and i can enjoy our life together.

Diane: That’s all I want, too. I want things going forward to be as wonderful and stress-free as possible. And– and I’m sorry if my actions seem a little pushy, but honestly, it’s– it’s coming out of love.

Jack: You know something? You are absolutely right. We have to go to the limit if we’re going to end this war once and for all.

Diane: Yeah. Mm. [ Sighing ]

[ Diane chuckling ]

Your heart

is the beat of life.

Summer: You know, despite everything that’s been going on, I really do appreciate your kindness towards me. I know that I’m not always the easiest person to deal with.

Chance: Ooh. No, you, uh, you have your moments. I’m happy to be there for you, though, any way I can.

Chelsea: Hey. I’m not late, am I?

Summer: Uh, no, not at all.

Chelsea: Are you sure? I can give you guys a minute.

Chance: No, I was just saying hi. I’ve got to run anyways.

Summer: Hey, thanks for trying to cheer me up.

Chance: Any time.

Chelsea: Hey.

Chance: Good to see you.

Chelsea: Good to see you.

[ Both sighing ] That chance. He’s one of the good guys. He was actually a really good influence on adam not too long ago, and he was always such a great friend to rey.

Summer: Well, I will take all the friends that I can get right now.

Chelsea: Hm. Well, I’d like to consider myself one of them. I mean, I know our working relationship just started, but I feel like we’ve built a lot of trust there. Oh, that’s your cue that if you want to tell me something personal I’m here to listen.

Summer: Oh, okay. [ Laughs ] Uh, I guess I’m just still feeling conflicted. You know, I would really love for kyle to forgive me and I would love to be able to find a way to forgive him for cheating on me.

Chelsea: I can’t imagine any of that is easy for you.

Summer: No. I know that you recommended letting go, but I just– I don’t know if that’s possible. After everything that we’ve been through, I mean, isn’t it worth it to try to save our marriage? I– I still love kyle. How do I just walk away from that?

Lauren: Thank you.

Phyllis: I have a confession to make.

Lauren: Oh, god. I don’t think I can take another one.

Phyllis: All right. Even heather won’t be able to save me if I lose my star witness. And I’m having to be nice to tucker so that carson doesn’t disappear. It’s proving to be very challenging.

Lauren: Michael told me about this deal with tucker and I think it’s a very tricky situation. He’s very sketchy and shady.

Phyllis: Yeah. He– I’m under his thumb and I want to gag.

Lauren: Yeah, well, don’t you give up because if you get jack’s forgiveness, it’ll be worth it.

Phyllis: I saw jack. It wasn’t nice.

Lauren: He will come around. He has a soft spot for you and always has.

Phyllis: I think I killed it this time.

Lauren: No, no, do not give up trying. I don’t love the fact that tucker has his hooks in you, but actually, getting jack and kyle’s forgiveness is going to work in your favor, and hopefully summer’S. So, you do this for you, not tucker.

Diane: Kyle! Thank you so much for meeting us.

Kyle: Sure thing. What’s up?

Diane: Well, your father and i are getting married today!

Kyle: What?

Diane: Yeah!

Jack: We’re heading to the courthouse shortly and we would like you to be there and be part of it with us.

Diane: Yeah.

Kyle: Wow, um… I, uh, didn’t see that coming. Uh… why the rush?

Jack: We want to put any and everyone’s doubts to rest and the truth is, I don’t want to spend another day not married to your beautiful mother.

Diane: Aw.

[ Sighing ] Kyle, you seem a little iffy about this, but trust me, you don’t have to worry. This is a good thing.

Kyle: I’m trying to keep up with the two of you. To follow your lead.

Jack: You know, I thought you were fully on board with our getting back together.

Kyle: No, dad, I am, but I can’t help but feel like outside forces are motivating a move like this. I mean, it seems unwise to charge into something so… important and life-changing and… what’s this really all about? Where are you going?

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Jack: Yes, there are other factors at play in us getting married today, but I am deeply in love with your mother and I want to make a point of that to ashley and anyone else who doubts my sincerity.

Kyle: Yeah. Billy told me the fight between you and ashley hadn’t ended, despite aunt traci’s attempt at a truce. So once again, I’m the last to find out about what’s going on in my family.

Jack: No, this is not about exclusion. You have had your own problems to deal with. And ashley is not the principal factor in us getting married. Our love is.

Diane: Yeah. Kyle, please. Won’t you join us in a celebration of that?

[ Diane sighing ]

Kyle: Um… I’m afraid I’m going to have to bow out. I have back to back meetings at newman media all afternoon and into the evening.

Diane: I’m sorry to hear that.

Kyle: I mean, you two did spring this on me at the last minute. I was thinking september for your wedding. Wasn’t that the plan? Does that even still stand?

Diane: No, we are going to have a reception then for all of our loved ones. But, kyle, come on. Can’t you just rearrange your schedule for today? We– we would love to have our son beside us.

Tucker: Hey.

Ashley: Hi.

Tucker: I have an update for you.

Ashley: Oh, I have an update. Things have gotten a lot worse.

Tucker: Really?

Ashley: Yeah.

Tucker: They tend to do that.

Ashley: And this–

Billy: Hey.

Tucker: Hey, billy. How are you?

Ashley: Hi.

Billy: I’m okay. Uh, listen, um, I thought I should tell you because, well, it’s not fun to be left in the dark, as I’ve found out a few occasions lately, but, uh, jack and diane are getting married today in a civil ceremony.

Ashley: Yeah, I heard. Diane told me earlier.

Tucker: Oh, wow.

Billy: Okay.

Tucker: I’m tearing up.

Billy: As you know that I’ve been supportive of jack, but I think he’s crossing the line with this move.

Ashley: Really? You never thought diane was a threat before.

Billy: I mean, he’s rushing into this, clearly, and he’s not taking any steps to protect himself. I guarantee you he doesn’t have a prenup, and I think we can all agree that can be very dangerous.

Tucker: Do you even care?

Billy: He’s my brother, tucker, so yeah, I care. But I would be lying if I said this rush to the altar doesn’t have me questioning everything else now, too.

Ashley: Yeah, well, diane told me it was jack’s idea, but I don’t believe her.

Billy: I agree. I think diane is the mastermind. But jack didn’t say anything about diane’s promotion, he didn’t say anything about pushing kyle from of marchetti, so I am worried about jabot.

Ashley: Oh, my god. Oh, god, this is such a relief. So, you finally see it? You really see it? I mean, jack is an idiot.

Chelsea: I’ll admit walking away from adam was not easy for me. I tried to save our marriage past the point of it making sense. I mean, it didn’t work out for us, but we were also in a very different situation, facing different things than what you and kyle are dealing with.

Summer: Kyle and I were good. We were so good. Un– until we weren’T.

Chelsea: I see. I do know, I mean, that you can’t force someone to stay with you.

Summer: I know. The way I see it, though is that he betrayed me by sleeping with another woman and I still love him and I want to be with him. I guess I just don’t really know if he feels that way about me.

Chelsea: Well, maybe he’s just too hurt to show it.

Summer: I have loved him for so long. I mean, he’s a part of me. He’s my other half. I just– I don’t understand. Like, how can he not love me back just as much?

Chelsea: I’m really sorry you’re going through all this.

Summer: Uh, you know what? This– this isn’t fair to you. You shouldn’t have to deal with my personal problems. And I’ve already spent too much time thinking about things that I can’t control, so let’s just shift gears. Let’s, uh, let’s get to work.

[ Summer sighing ] Martial arts is my passion. With cirkul, your water is deliciously flavored at the turn of a dial, with zero sugar and zero calories. And cirkul has over 40 flavors, so your water can be as unique as you are. Try cirkul at drinkcirkul.Com hey, dad. I got an a on my book report.

Phyllis: I know it’s not going to be easy with jack. Um, it’s not something I can just wave away.

Lauren: Well, I think seeking forgiveness is going to be good for you because you can move forward. And if you have jack and kyle’s acceptance, you are free of tucker, and hopefully these charges against you. And then you can get back to your life.

Phyllis: Yeah. I want to get back to my life.

Lauren: Then you should focus on that.

Phyllis: I want to start a new life, you know? Just create something new with my kids and make it up to all my friends that I hurt.

Lauren: Yes. You focus on that.

Phyllis: I don’t trust tucker.

Lauren: And you shouldn’T.

Phyllis: But I need some leverage, you know what I mean? Something over him so I can protect myself in case, you know, he decides to, uh, make carson disappear, you know what I mean? He keeps on threatening me.

Lauren: It never hurts to take precautions against someone like mccall. I want you to know I’ll be with you every step of the way, but you have got to keep heather in the loop. You have got to tell her everything that you are doing because she is your best chance at freedom.

Summer: Well, everyone at marchetti is already super impressed with you. I mean, they already knew your history and your creative vision in the fashion industry, but I really do feel like you have stepped into the creative director role with a lot of ease.

Chelsea: Well, thank you. Billy and i were just talking about it. It does feel like things have fallen into place.

Summer: Well, as you’re still getting settled, just feel free to ask me any questions. Or if you have ideas about the business structure, creative, anything, I– I want to hear it.

Chelsea: I mean, I have tons of ideas how we can maximize our potential.

Summer: Okay, great! I mean, that’s exactly why I hired you. Chelsea, I really do think you and I working together, we’re going to see record growth at marchetti.

[ Chelsea chuckling ]

Chelsea: Can i tell you something? Just a personal observation.

Summer: Yeah, sure.

Chelsea: I think you’re a lot stronger than you give yourself credit for. I mean, I truly feel like you’re going to find a way to be move on and be happy.

Kyle: I wish I could, but I can’T. In fact, I have to head back to the office.

Jack: Kyle, it’s a civil ceremony. It won’t take that long.

Kyle: And dad, I hope it goes well. Congratulations. See you later.

Diane: Well, that’s not how I thought that conversation would go.

Jack: You know what? He’s being diligent and responsible in his new job at newman media.

Diane: No, no, I think there’s more going on. Ever since this whole ordeal with summer, he’s been just shut down emotionally and, I don’t know, maybe seeing two people exchange vows of lasting love is just, um, too much for him right now.

Jack: You know what? I can’t argue with you there. I know from experience that when you shut out that part of your heart, you don’t always make the wisest decisions.

Billy: This quickie wedding just proves your point that jack is not thinking clearly and he’s lost his mind because of diane and it’s got me concerned. Frankly, I’m angry. I don’t want you two to go to war over jabot. I don’t want that. This courthouse wedding is a mistake and it’s a big red flag. Before my doctor and I chose breztri for my copd, I

[ Kyle sighing ]

Kyle: Hi. Sorry I’m late.

Audra: Already slacking, huh?

Kyle: Oh, worse. I had to deal with more family drama. I just can’t seem to catch a break these days. I’m sorry. I may not be good company.

Audra: It’s okay. What can I do to help?

Kyle: Hm. Well, can we cancel our afternoon meetings? Because right now I need to get you alone.

[ Summer sighing ]

Chance: Hey, summer. Nice to see you again. You okay?

Summer: Honestly?

[ Summer chuckling ] No. Everybody keeps telling me that I just need to move on, that I need to let go, but I– I don’t know if I could do that. I’ve already lost so much. And yeah, my mom is back, but it’s not the same. I mean, everything is different. I just… I wish that everything could go back to the way that it was.

[ Summer sighing ]

Chance: Yeah.

[ Chance sighing ] You know, sometimes, the best way out is forward.

[ Both panting ]

Audra: Do you trust me? Turn around.

[ Kyle chuckling ]

Phyllis: I mean, tucker’s got to have a weak spot. He has to have a vulnerable spot.

Lauren: I mean, he’s an enigma. For a man who only cared about himself, now seems to actually be caring about others. His son, his grandson, ashley.

Phyllis: He has an agenda. He’s after jabot.

Lauren: Ah. [ Scoffing ] That explains the motivation.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm.

Lauren: So, the situation is inherently precarious. You have got to find his weak link and you go from there.

Phyllis: Right. You know, I’m trying to be honest and aboveboard, but I think I have to tap into og phyllis.

Lauren: Oh, boy.

Phyllis: I think I do. I have no choice. Just this last time. And then I’m going to create my new life, I swear.

Diane: I can’t believe we’re actually doing this! Oh, how did I get so lucky to have such a handsome groom?

Jack: Hey!

Billy: Hey. Excuse me, sorry to interrupt. But, uh, I just ran into tucker and ashley and I was able to bait the situation. Don’t know if they’re going to bite or not, but they are poised, just to let you know.

Jack: Hello. Well, you are both welcome to join us at our civil ceremony.

Tucker: Did you say civil?

[ Laughing ] Civil, my ass.

Ashley: You know what? This just proves what I’ve been saying all along. You have completely lost your mind and thank god, billy finally agrees with me.

Billy: Ashley.

Jack: Wait. Is that true?

Billy: Jack, you’re not– you’re not making this easy, right? I mean, this is mistake. You shouldn’t be going through with this. And honestly, if diane actually loved you as much as she said she does, she would put an end to this now.

Sharon: You know, our supper club was supposed to be about us trying new restaurants and different cuisines, yet, here we are at the same restaurant we’ve both been to 1,000 times before. But well, I was craving the empanadas.

Chance: I ordered something I’ve never had before, so that kind of counts, right?

Sharon: Mm-hmm.

Chance: Yeah.

Sharon: You know, I’m surprised, though, that you haven’t tried everything on the menu, given that Abby, oh, um–

[ Chance chuckling ] I’m sorry, I didn’t–

Chance: No, no, no, it’s fine, it’s fine. I’m not going to avoid the best restaurant in town just because my ex-wife owns it.

[ Laughing ] So, Abby and I, were on good terms. Our new arrangement with Dom’s going well, so all’s good.

Sharon: Glad to hear that.

Chance: Yeah, so I think we got a little sidetracked from the dessert menu. I want to hear about this new company, Kirsten, McCall…

[ Imitates bang ]

Sharon: Adustus, which, I have to be honest, I’m really not that thrilled about the name.

Chance: Yeah, I think I’m with you. It’s rough. I think that’s latin for burned, right?

Sharon: Mm-hmm.

Chance: Yeah, Adam’s clearly, trying to send a message. I’m just not sure how many people are going to get it.

Sharon: I don’t think Adam cares who gets it. He just amuses himself with his own inside jokes.

Tucker: Good evening, Phyllis. Hey, Adam, how’s it going? It’s funny. I would never peg you for a jazz guy I would think country, you know. Here I am crying in my beer over my dog and my woman. That kind of thing.

[ Both laughing ] Hey, I’ll see you.

Ashley: Bye.

[ Adam clears throat ]

Phyllis: Thank you.

Adam: Oh, ooh. You’re looking a little frazzled, Phyllis. Guess that’s to be expected given what you’re facing.

Phyllis: I’m not in the mood for you.

Adam: Yeah, from what I read, your, uh, situation is looking pretty dire. Key witness comes out of nowhere. Now, that screams payoff. I mean, if you did, I’m not throwing any shade. You know, I definitely would have done the same thing. But I don’t have a decades long history with the D.A. Who would love nothing more than to throw me in jail. But if anybody can do it, it’s you, Phyllis. So, I have faith in you.

Phyllis: You need to stop talking. Shut up. Stay out of my business. Stay out of my life.

Adam: Are you sure that you want me to do that?

Phyllis: Yeah. [ Laughs ]

Adam: Because I was just about to make you an offer.

Jack: It is off the table. We are not giving Ashley an easy win here.

Billy: Jack, this isn’t a family reality show competition, okay? This is our company. This is our business.

Jack: Yes, and Ashley is the one who’s threatening it right now and not for the first time. I cannot believe after all the work we did to rebuild our relationship, after she took her patents and ran to Paris, she pulls a stunt like this, all so Diane can’t be part of the business or part of our family. That’s not going to happen, Billy. I don’t care how much she and tucker plot and plan, I’m not moving one inch.

Billy: I hear you. But know this is about to get very ugly.

*****************

Billy: Mind if I join you?

Phyllis: That depends.

Billy: On?

Phyllis: On whether you’re interested in making me a blood sport like everybody else in this town.

Billy: Why would I do that?

Phyllis: Because I hurt a lot of people.

Billy: Yeah.

Phyllis: You know, Billy, I don’t want a brass band or anything like that, but it would be really nice if somebody cut me some slack like they seem to do with other people.

Billy: That’s quite the mea culpa.

Phyllis: When you’re wrong you’re wrong.

Billy: I don’t want to bury you, Phyllis.

[ Knocking on door ]

[ Sally chuckling ]

Nick: I missed this. I missed you.

Sally: I missed you.

[ Sally laughing ]

Nick: Are you, uh, glad you went?

Sally: I am. I feel like spending time with my sister and my grandmother did me a lot of good. Change of scenery, even quick, definitely made me see things more clearly.

Nick: See things more clearly in smoggy L.A.? Come on.

Sally: My sister, coco, grams and i spent a lot of time talking about everything that happened, and dealing with loss, coping with grief, and even though, I definitely have a long way to go, I feel like spending time with them gave me a huge head start to my healing. At least, I feel like it did.

Nick: Well, you look great.

Sally: Thank you.

Nick: I mean, you always look great, but you seem more– I don’t know, more at peace from when you left, you know? It looks good on you.

Sally: Thank you. Okay, enough about me. What did I miss? What’s the latest in genoa city?

Nick: Yeah, I mean, there are some news, but did I mention again, how much I missed this part?

Chance: So, you still think this is the right move? Joining forces with adam?

Adam: Hey, chance. Why don’t you stay out of it, okay? It’s got nothing to do with you.

Tucker: So, the infighting has begun.

Ashley: Yeah, exactly as we were hoping. Diane wants to quit her job at jabot and jack doesn’t wanna let her. It’s kind of entertaining. Somewhat.

Tucker: Hm, sounds like I missed the good stuff.

Ashley: Mm-mm. You missed the best part. Jack said, in order to keep the peace, he wants to let me have his share of jabot. I can run with it wherever I want, to paris, across the street, whatever.

Tucker: That’s good news, isn’t it? That means we don’t have to go to war with them, we can just– away we go.

Ashley: Tucker… not so fast. That’s not how I want this to end.

Diane: Oh, god.

Jack: You’re not going anywhere.

Diane: Jack.

Jack: We are not giving in to her extortion. You want your part of jabot? Fine. Take it.

Diane: No.

Jack: I will sign whatever papers are necessary.

Diane: Jack, I won’t let you do that.

Jack: It is done.

Ashley: Are you serious?

Jack: I am dead serious.

Ashley: You’re so disgusting, jack. That you would actually give away such a large portion of the company you spent your whole life building because of her? Keeping her at jabot?

Jack: I will say it’s a hell of a lot better than tearing apart the family company.

Ashley: Just stop, jack. You’re actually willing to do this for diane.

Jack: I would do that and a lot more for the woman I love. What is wrong with you? All of this to get her out of the company, out of the family? You want war? I’m ending it right now.

Tucker: Hi. What’s going on?

Ashley: Jack’s caving.

Diane: No, he’s not.

Jack: Diane.

Diane: I will not let you throw it all away for me, I’m out.

[ Footsteps approaching ] You’re mad at me for telling ashley that I’ll walk away from jabot.

Jack: I’m not–

Diane: Yes, you are. It’s like I let you down or something. Look, I know we were excited to work together at jabot, but me stepping down as chief talent officer is the only thing that makes sense at this point. I can’t let you break apart your family company just to stop ashley.

[ Jack sighing ] Mmm, popcorn. With cirkul, your water is deliciously flavored at the turn of a dial, with zero sugar and zero calories. And c

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…she wants a chunk of jabot, she can we have no guarantee wn.

Jack: Come here. Sit down. Sit down. I don’t want you thinking you have to sacrifice your happiness to appease my sister.

Diane: Well, if it gets her to back off–

Jack: We have no guarantee that it will. She is the one who should feel guilty and ashamed for the way she’s treated you, the way she’s treated us. You’re no threat to the family company or to my father’s legacy. She wants a chunk of jabot, she can have it. Maybe, she’ll back off then. As long as she has tucker weighing her down, her chances of success are a lot slimmer than she thinks they are.

Diane: Yeah, but what if they are successful with their new venture? Especially, if they take ashley’s patents and research with them? No, jack, I’m not going to let you throw away any part of this company for me. It means too much to you and to me. It’s– it’s where we met. It’s part of our love story.

Jack: Ashley and I have done this dance before. Look, best case scenario, history repeats itself and we find our way back together.

Diane: Okay, well, what’s the worst case?

Jack: Worst case, the two of them implode. Their business goes down in flames and jabot gets everything back.

Diane: Hm.

Jack: Hey, this is my decision to make.

Diane: Well, I’m making a decision too. I’m not letting you walk away from this fight.

Ashley: I’m not backing down from this fight, tucker. If jack tears jabot into pieces, then I’ve accomplished nothing. I’m not going to risk my father’s legacy just for the hell of it.

Tucker: But don’t you think if jack hasn’t had an epiphany about diane up to now, he’s never going to? So, I say we just pull whatever assets we can from jabot, which would really give us a nice little foundation for our venture, and we let diane drag jack and jabot into the mud. That’s a winning strategy, my dear.

Ashley: Mm, is it really?

Tucker: Mm-hmm. You can’t save a man who’s determined to drown.

Adam: What’s going on here? I’m picking up on a different dynamic between you two.

Sharon: Um, what are you talking about, adam?

Adam: [ Laughs ] Come on. I asked you about your interest level in chance not that long ago, and you gave me the “we’re just friends” card. I mean, I would hate to think you weren’t being honest with me, sharon. I mean, I thought that we were friends. And I have to say, I’ve noticed you glowing every time you see this guy, and now, here you are dining together.

Chance: Friends can have dinner, adam. And not to mention, it’s really none of your business.

Adam: None of my business?

Chance: No.

Adam: But it’s your business to try to talk sharon out of working with me?

Chance: Well, I was just simply giving her my opinion as a friend, and I’ll tell you right to your face, I think she’s asking for big trouble partnering with you.

Adam: Based on what?

Chance: Well, for starters, the name of your company. I mean, that basically, says it all, doesn’t it? You’re bitter about being under your daddy’s thumb. You’re looking for sharon’s sympathy, and I don’t think you are capable of letting go of your anger. I think you’re gonna weaponize this new company and use it against victor somehow.

Adam: Those are a lot of assumptions based on hearsay, detective.

Chance: I know you pretty well.

Adam: Well, you did. A little, maybe, in the past, but you have no idea what’s going on inside my head right now. I could have accepted the fact that my father has my best interest at heart, and maybe, this move is for my benefit.

Chance: Yeah, that is possible. Not very likely.

Sharon: Let’s just give adam the benefit of the doubt. Besides, nick and i can keep him in line.

Adam: Oh, I don’t doubt that you will try.

Nick: So, I’m out. Nate’s in. And I told you, uh, dad has asked me to join forces with adam at the new, reinvented mccall unlimited.

Sally: So, you’re gonna go along with it.

Nick: You know, at first, I was annoyed that I was being shuffled around like one of dad’s chess pieces, but then, I saw the potential of the mccall thing. And then, when you pair it with kirsten’s old company, and then, sharon joining the team, I agreed to jump on board.

Sally: But I thought you liked working with your mother and your sister.

Nick: I do, very much. But newman enterprises is a well-oiled machine. The impact I could have there compared to what me, sharon and adam could do with this new thing, it’s a no-brainer. Now, I’m not happy that nate is the coo, but that’s not my problem, that’s victoria and dad’S. I’m focused on the future. And I’m very… very excited about that. Sweet pillows of softness!

Nick: The idea of turning two companies into one wildly successful entity is very appealing. Plus, if I could turn cameron’s blood money into something positive, I think it would do some real good.

Sally: Well, I love the enthusiasm. But what about the adam factor? So, you could get along and work side by side?

Nick: Well, sharon will be there to referee. Hopefully, she’ll prevent us from killing each other. Adam seems to be on his best behavior when sharon’s around, so we got that going for us. Plus, I’m really looking forward to working with sharon again. You know, we ran the coffeehouse a million years ago. We worked at newman and at restless style, so we make a good team. And I think our history and our mutual respect for one another will keep things running smoothly.

Sally: Well, if you are excited, I’m excited.

Nick: I’m excited.

Sally: I’m also really hungry. Would you like to go downstairs and get something to eat?

Nick: Yes.

Sally: Okay.

Victor: Thank you.

[ Footsteps approaching ] Oh, phyllis. You’re looking damn good for a dead woman. You know, I may have been thought of having died two or three times, but I’ve never deliberately tortured my family with that notion. You, on the other hand, allowed your daughter, summer, my granddaughter, to plan a memorial for you. I mean, who does that? Are you kidding? No one. You know that her marriage is in shambles. That’s because of you.

Phyllis: Yeah, I– I know that, I– I– I am very sorry for that. I already talked to summer about it.

Victor: And yet, she still wants to help you. She wants to… ask me to help her find that carson fellow who apparently, is the only one who can save you from going to jail.

Phyllis: Uh, well, don’t worry about it. He’s been found. You weren’t able to do it. Somebody else did it. So, excuse me, excuse me.

Victor: Phyllis. What you have done to my granddaughter… is unforgivable. And you will pay for it.

Tucker: Bravo. Uh, you want to stay for another one or go home and see what the nut jobs are up to?

Ashley: Hm. Both sound so much fun, but I think one behooves our future more than the other, so…

Tucker: Home it shall be.

Ashley: Yes. Oh, hi, phyllis.

Phyllis: Hey.

Tucker: How’s it going?

Phyllis: It’s going great. Where is he? What have you done with him?

Tucker: Where’s who? Oh, carson? Don’t worry about him. He’s fine. He’s safe and sound in a new location. I gotta tell you, I was not thrilled hearing that you had conceived a plan to put him in some kind of protective custody to keep him away from me.

Ashley: That doesn’t sound very fair.

Tucker: And not to mention, violating the terms of our arrangement.

Ashley: Does this mean we can’t trust you? Not that shocking, but…

Phyllis: Your fiancé is holding me hostage, do you know that? He’s trying to make me fight a war I don’t want to fight anymore. I want to move on from that. It– it seems like you’re part of it and you’re getting some sort of joy out of this.

Ashley: Listen, phyllis, you can’t begin to understand.

Jack: All right, I’m with you. We don’t let ashley win, but you don’t leave jabot either. My sister wants war, we will give her a war. She wants to fight dirty, I can fight dirtier.

Diane: No, no, no, jack, I don’t want you to do that–

Jack: We may not have an option here. Look, if we decide not to give in, if we decide to really fight, I guarantee you tucker mccall is gonna pull out every dirty trick he can even think of.

Diane: I’m sure you’re right, but I have a plan. “Look at this skin, baby.

Phyllis: What is this? Do I even want to know what’s going on here?

Tucker: Well, well, well, seems you might be done with the war, phyllis, but the war isn’t done with you.

Diane: Okay, call billy, and tell him that we–

Jack: I’m sorry, hold on. My assistant just sent me a link, said I need to check out leanna love’s website.

Diane: Ugh.

Leanna: What will the surprise resurrection of the former mrs. Jack abbott mean for the future mrs. Jack abbott? The two women share more than taste in men, apparently. Both have a penchant for faking their demise. Latest to do it, was phyllis summers, who had bride-to-be, diane jenkins, charged with murdering her one time rival, before it was revealed that reports of miss summers’ death were wildly exaggerated.

Jack: I’ll bet ashley is just eating this up.

Diane: Oh, yeah, and she’s gonna run with it.

Leanna: The deception is having wide repercussions, we hear. The abbott family is taking sides on who’s right and who’s wrong in this saga. With jack and diane’s son, kyle abbott, and his wife, phyllis’s daughter, summer newman-abbott, on opposite sides. Things have gotten so bad, supposedly, that both have divorce lawyers on speed dial. And on the business front, jack abbott has given his fiancée a top executive job at family company, jabot.

[ Laughs ] And not everyone is happy about that. Phyllis has turned herself in for her crimes and is awaiting trial, while diane can look forward to a wedding, sumptuous digs in the jabot executive suite, and a luxurious lifestyle in the abbott mansion. Miss summers is almost certainly on her way back to the slammer, where she’ll see her family only on visiting days. And that’s leanna love coming to you live. Don’t forget to tune in each day for more tidbits.

Tucker: Wow. Leanna made some good points here, phyllis. Ones you might want to consider, given that you were willing to betray the one man who would keep you out of prison. I don’t know, I think my– my confidence in you is shot. You might have to do something for me if you want to win it back.

Sharon: You didn’t say a word the whole walk back from dinner. Is it adam? Did running into him bother you?

Chance: You know what? Let’s not ruin a perfect night by talking about adam newman, okay? I’ll leave it with this, I’m willing to follow your lead and give this guy the benefit of the doubt, even though, I don’t think he deserves it, it’s fine. I’ll do it.

Sharon: I appreciate that.

Chance: Yeah.

Sharon: I think.

[ Both chuckling ]

Chance: I know you can handle him. I don’t think you should have to, but that is beside the point. Now, can we please, can we stop talking about adam newman and can we just get back to the more important things?

Victor: My boy. Join me. Please have a seat.

Sally: Thank you.

Victor: Sally. I want to offer my deepest condolences, okay? For you and my sons who have lost a child. That’s tough.

Sally: Yeah. Wasn’t meant to be, I guess.

Victor: Yeah. I’m very, very sorry. Um, but I’ve got to tell you that I admire the way you’ve handled yourself.

Sally: Thank you.

Nick: Where we going with this, dad? Somedays, I cover up because of my moderate

Phyllis: Do I even want to know what you have in mind?

Tucker: I don’t even know yet. I’m sure I’ll think of something though. Or maybe I’ll just drop the whole thing. Let you take your chances in court.

Ashley: Look, I’m not trying to be mean here, but it– it is kind of like karmic justice, isn’t it, phyllis? Because stark never would have come to genoa city if it hadn’t been for you.

Tucker: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Much to consider. Shall we?

Ashley: Yeah.

Tucker: Okay.

Ashley: Well.

Adam: Are you sure that you want me to do that?

Phyllis: Yeah. [ Laughs ]

Adam: Because I was just about to make you an offer.

Victor: I have a proposition for you. I understand that jill has contracted your design firm to do some work on chancellor-winter’s headquarters and some of the other offices.

Sally: That’s right.

Victor: Well, I have a better offer. We would like you to create a new design division under the umbrella of newman enterprises. Money is no object. You’ll have all the office space you need.

Sally: Well, I really appreciate the offer, mr. Newman, it’s–

Victor: The reason I’m making the offer is because of my own past experiences. Whenever I have… suffered some loss or gone through some tragedy, as you obviously have, I’ve always found it best to plunge into a new task, new challenge. Do some hard work. Best therapy there is.

Sally: Well, I will need some time to think about it.

Victor: Of course.

Sally: Yeah, I would want to just bail on chancellor-winters. I would like to fulfill the commitment that chloe and I have there.

Victor: Well, you take all the time you need, okay? But just know, if you accept the offer, you work for no one else but newman enterprises.

Chance: I know you’re too smart to put yourself in a bad position. Thank you. And I actually do have faith that you and nick can keep adam in line, but that being said, I still don’t trust the guy.

Sharon: Well, thank you for trusting that I am fully in control of my life.

Chance: I just want you to be happy. And successful. Whatever that means to you.

Sharon: It’s been a while, but… I have a feeling that I am on my way to finding both.

Diane: People are bound to gossip and– and leak information. There’s nothing we can do about it.

Jack: Leave it to leanna love to be the one to air our family’s dirty laundry. In the past, she would have let me know before she pulled a stunt like this. Or not. No, we were always pretty good at using each other. Well, I guess I got the wrong idea. I thought this was going to be a business meeting.

Leanna: Did I say that, jack?

Jack: No, come to think of it, I guess you didn’T.

Leanna: Even if it were a business meeting, no need to be all stuffy, is there? Take your jacket off. Get comfortable.

Jack: Uh, where are you going?

Leanna: I’ll be right back. I have something to show you.

Jack: Nice digs. Life’s going well.

Leanna: Ta-da!

Jack: Why, miss love, if I didn’t know any better, I’d swear you were trying to seduce me. You’re right. We need to focus on the things we can control. Now, tell me about this plan of yours and how billy fits into it.

Diane: Okay. I know your brother is just as determined to protect your beau from ashley and tucker as we are. The difference is, billy’s not adverse to getting his hands dirty. No, I– I know that you would do whatever it takes for jabot. But why not let billy take the lead this time? I think he’s willing and able to do it.

Jack: He didn’t seem that concerned about jabot being in jeopardy.

Diane: Well, I think he was just advocating for more benign scenarios for your sake. He cares deeply about you, jack, and he doesn’t want to push too hard so that you were maybe forced to do something that’s not in your best interest.

Jack: That’s exactly how I feel. He just recently got back on his feet. He’s got his balance again. I don’t want to put him in an untenable situation and you still haven’t told me what his plan is.

Diane: Billy becomes our trojan horse. (Wheezing)

Tucker: Diane, jack. Uh, regarding this very smart, very generous decision, when can we expect paperwork giving ashley her fair share of jabot?

Jack: Actually, I have changed my mind. I can’t bring myself to tear my father’s company into pieces and I won’t be firing diane.

Tucker: See, I told you.

Jack: She won’t be resigning either. So, if you’re determined to fight me, hit me with your best shot.

Tucker: He’s beyond salvation. You’re just wasting your time trying to deal with him.

Jack: How about this? How about stop trying to deal with me? How about stopping all of this? You want to walk away? Fine. Walk away. You know, like brother and sister. Fine, let’s have a sibling divorce, shall we?

Ashley: Are you really doing this? I mean, if there was ever any question before, there isn’t now. You are willing to put her above everybody else in your life, including your own family, jack? You are pathetic.

Jack: I’m not the one trying to tear our family legacy in two. Last chance! You ready to be reasonable? Or are we going to turn this into an abbott family war?

Ashley: Bring it on.

Phyllis: I don’t like you. I don’t want to know you.

[ Laughs ] So, I’m not interested in anything you might offer.

Adam: Are you sure? It’s a legit opportunity and it’s something you would be really good at. And you know me, I am all about second chances. Okay, I need someone to build and run an it team at my new company. And I need someone that’s up to date on the bells and whistles that can make the infrastructure impenetrable.

Phyllis: You afraid? Someone’s after you?

Adam: You never know. But the most important thing for you is nick is my partner in this. So, it might be a great way to get back in his good graces.

[ Phyllis sighing ]

Phyllis: I’m not interested in anything you’re offering. I’ll just leave it at that. Um, I’m just not even interested in employment. I just– I’m trying to save my life, adam.

Adam: Fair enough. You know how to get in touch with me. Good luck.

Nick: Sorry if my dad put you on the spot.

Sally: It’s fine. Really. He expressed his sympathies and he offered me a job. It’s not really a bad evening with the great victor newman. But, you know, I am getting a little tired, so why don’t we say we maybe we just go back upstairs and order room service. That way I can just fall into bed.

Nick: I love it. Why don’t you go up? I’m gonna say goodnight to my dad.

Sally: Okay.

Adam: It wasn’t that bad at newman media, was it?

Sally: We had our moments.

Adam: We can have them again. But this time on our own terms, answering to no one.

Sally: We were lightning in a bottle, adam.

Adam: You can’t tell me that you don’t want that again.

Sally: I want different things now. And I have made my decision. There isn’t a newman alive who will ever sign my paychecks again.

Victor: Okay. Talk to you later. Bye. Where’s sally?

Nick: Uh, she went up to the room.

Victor: Oh.

Nick: Just, uh, trying to figure out what’s going on here. Seems like this may be a manipulation of some kind. Are you doing this just to keep sally away from me while I work with adam? Or do you just want her somewhere where you can keep an eye on her?

Victor: Son, I just made the woman in your life an enormous offer to create her own design company under the newman enterprises umbrella.

Nick: Did you?

Victor: Yes. Why must you always question my motives? I would like you to create a new design division under the umbrella of newman enterprises. Money is no object. You’ll have all the office space you need.

Adam: So, you have a no newman clause in your contracts?

Sally: It’s not exactly in writing, but…

Adam: I mean, clarify this for me. Is it the name? Genetics? Is it anybody with newman dna or is it everyone in– in the family of which you’re about to be a part of?

Sally: It’s you and nick. For obvious reasons.

[ Knocking on door ]

Adam: Sally, are you in there?

Nick: What are you doing here?

Adam: Nothing. If you’re still having bladder leaks,

[ Soft music plays ]

Your body’s my weakness

I can’t walk away

a taste of your sweetness

and I’ve gotta say

lower the lifeboat

I’m sinking down

take me to heaven

[ Adam sighing ]

Let me drift around

drift around

Sally: Thank you. All right, so the room service is on its way. And I do not want to talk about your father’s offer tonight. Because I honestly have no idea how I feel about it.

Nick: Yeah, cool.

Sally: In fact, I do not want to talk about anything.

[Song resumes]

Lower the lifeboat

[ Diane sighing ]

Jack: Billy, it’s jack. Can we meet first thing tomorrow morning? Diane and I have a plan to stop ashley from destroying jabot.

Nick and Nate have another argument and Nick warns Nate not to test him.

Jack and Diane ask Billy to stage an argument with him, so Ashley and Tucker think he is angry enough with Jack to betray him. Billy will then give Tucker and Ashley false information about Jabot.

Audra: Thank you.

Summer: You really are something else.

Audra: Thank you.

Summer: It’s not a compliment. I’m just curious. Is kyle another random hookup to you or did you have your sights set on my husband and his money before you even knew that I had moved out?

*”**”**********””***

Summer: The other woman is calling me tacky.

Audra: Hm. I’m not sure the other woman really fits me. And, um, I don’t know if you’ve heard, but I have my own money, thank you, so it wasn’t Kyle’s financial assets that attracted me to him. Why are you torturing yourself this way? I mean, why does it matter how Kyle and I started?

Summer: It matters because Kyle and I are still married.

Audra: Technically, sure, okay, but I don’t see anything I do affects the bigger picture. You know, Kyle is a grown man. He makes his own decisions. Or– or is that something new?

Summer: What is that supposed to mean?

Audra: Summer, you’re trying to pin this all on me, okay? So– so you must clearly think that kyle can be controlled and manipulated, and maybe that’s the real issue. You know, Kyle has free will and if he wanted to be with you, girl, he would be, and yet, here you are, all on your own.

Diane: Good morning.

Ashley: And to you.

Diane: Nice jeans.

Ashley: Nice, um, shoes. Mrs. Martinez made muffins. Fresh out the oven if you want one in the kitchen.

Diane: Well, that’s very kind of you to let me know.

Ashley: Of course. Busy day?

Diane: It is. And– and you?

Ashley: I think it’s gonna be a really good day.

Diane: Is it?

Ashley: Mm-hmm. Did you hear the news?

Diane: Well, I’ve heard a lot of news. Um, let’s see, there’s a city council election coming up. A sale at Fenmore’s. Oh. Oh, that’s right. There’s a possible thunderstorm moving in.

Ashley: Actually, the biggest storm of all has already landed. Well, Phyllis is back. I’m sure you heard.

***************

Tucker: Sweet mystery of life. All right, ladies, let’s lay some ground rules. Biting, scratching, hair pulling, those are all legal.

Diane: Nice try, tucker, but I’m not going to give you the satisfaction of a cat fight.

Tucker: Hmm. All right, you– you take the first shot.

Diane: You know, I don’t– I don’t think any– any shots are needed.

[ Diane sighing ] Welcome home. You’re looking fabulous.

Phyllis: Thank you very much, Diane.

Diane: Yeah. When I first found out what you did, I was furious, but not surprised. You know, the truth is that you and I were victims of similar circumstances. We both fell prey to jeremy stark. And he had the power to make people sink to their absolute lowest level and make the absolute worst decisions.

Phyllis: Well, that is true.

Nick: Let’s focus on the present instead of rehashing previous indiscretions.

Victoria: Nothing changes, Nick.

Nick: Neither does the argument, so let’s switch things up.

Victoria: You’re suddenly on Adam’s side?

Nick: No. I’m on the side of accepting reality and trying to make things work.

Victor: Your sister seems to think that it’ll only work under her terms.

Victoria: He is a spoiled, rotten brat. He needs a strong hand to guide him, which is why I think it’s a great idea to send Nicholas over to Adustus to keep an eye on him.

Victor: I run this company, as I’ve just made clear to all of you.

***************

Victoria: Well, I am making the active choice to go along with this deal. And if you can’t do that, you should say so now.

Nick: Well, of course, you’re okay with it, because it works out to your advantage. But I know Adam doesn’t want to go along with this, and I’m not happy. What am I supposed to do with that?

Victor: You’ll get over it.

[ Nick laughing ]

Nick: Of course, I will. I’ll get over it for the family. Newman family unity, right?

Victor: Newman family unity. It’ll be achieved, even if I have to force it.

Audra: Just– I’m waiting to hear from nate. Um, there’s something’s going on with the Newmans and just curious to know what he found out.

Kyle: Oh. Got it. Fun time’s over. Your mind’s back to work.

Audra: Uh, well, um… it’s what I do, kyle. It’s who I am.

[ Kyle chuckling ]

Kyle: Look… not complaining.

Audra: Good, because work time and play time are two very separate things for me.

Kyle: Oh, are they? I’ll keep that in mind.

Audra: But you should know that I do give 1,000% to each of them. Better?

Kyle: Hmm. Much.

Audra: Good.

[ Kyle sighing ]

Kyle: You know, I’m still technically a member of the Newman family, so, maybe I can ask around and see what’s going on.

Audra: Um, that’s sweet of you and um… I might take you up on that offer down the road, but I think Nate has this one under control.

********************

Kyle: We’re not quite at the spending the night stage yet.

Audra: Mm, nope.

Kyle: Plus, I have a little boy who likes to wake up bright and early for breakfast.

Audra: I’m sure he’s a cutie, just like his daddy.

Kyle: I really am, aren’t I?

Audra: Uh, you know, I like that you’re not, um… clingy.

Kyle: Uh, should I be taking notes?

Audra: Um… I– you know, I’m going to keep you posted of any new developments with Newman Media.

Kyle: Okay.

Audra: Oh, and by the way, can you, hm, please try to be a little bit more discreet with your text messages?

Chance: Hey! Oh, no. Am I too late? I see you’re closing up.

Sharon: Good eye, detective.

Chance: Yeah, well, I understand if you wanna turn me away, but I’ve just come from booking Phyllis.

[ Sharon gasping ]

Sharon: You finally caught her?

Chance: No. She came in on her own. I figured you’d be interested.

Sharon: Are you kidding me? For that, I will keep the place open.

Chance: [ Laughs ] All right.

***************

Adam: Nick, I haven’t decided anything, okay? I’m not even sure it’s a good idea.

Nick: From no angle is this a good idea. Have you forgotten how many times over the years you have put Sharon though hell?

Adam: How is this any of your business, nick? Or is it all just part of a, “hey, let me show my brother what an ass I think he is?” I mean, shouldn’t you be with sally right now, helping her heal?

Nick: Sally’s strong. She is resilient. She doesn’t need me hovering to help her with her issues. She knows I will be there for her as much as she needs me.

Adam: But your ex is defenseless and needs you to save her from the big, bad wolf, is that it?

Nick: Stop, Adam, just stop it. This is not about the women in our lives. As usual, this is about us. Why is it that we can’t trust each other? Why is it that we can’t remain civil with one another for longer than five minutes? I mean, why do we even try? Let’s just quit pretending. Let’s just stop forcing this issue of us being brothers.

Recap written by Suzanne

At the Newman ranch, Victor expressed his frustration with the fractured state of their family and his failed attempts to bring them together. Nikki encouraged him not to be a defeatist. Victor voiced his concerns about Victoria’s unpredictable behavior, Adam feeling isolated after losing his baby, and Nick’s reluctance to help Adam rebuild McCall Unlimited. He blamed himself for giving his children too much freedom.

At the Newman corporate suite, Nate and Victoria made love and discussed their future together. They received messages from Victor to meet him urgently at the ranch.

At the ranch, Victor gathered his children and Nate to announce a new arrangement for their roles in the family business. He asserted his authority and ordered them to follow his instructions. He demanded that Nick and Adam work together at Adustus International, while Nate would continue as COO under Victoria. Adam stormed out, refusing to comply with Victor’s plan.

At the Athletic Club, Tucker and Audra had a conversation about Tucker’s newfound success and Audra’s interest in Kyle Abbott. Audra ignored Tucker’s snide remarks and invited Kyle to her suite.

Sharon and Chance celebrated Phyllis’ surrender and Sharon’s ownership of Kirsten, Incorporated. They ended up making love in Sharon’s office but were interrupted by Adam, who revealed he was walking away from Adustus International and suggested partnering with Sharon in her new venture with Kirsten, Incorporated.

Transcript provided by Suzanne

Billy: So, how was new york?

Jack: New york was illuminating and not in a good way.

Billy: What does that mean?

Jack: Ashley and tucker are planning on taking her assets and her patents out of jabot.

Diane: Can they even do that?

Jack: Legal has said that there are loopholes within our merger agreement that allow her to take everything if she can show cause.

Billy: She doesn’t have cause, so good luck with that.

Jack: Don’t be so sure of that.

Diane: What’s the problem?

Jack: She’s planning on using your past to build her case.

Tucker: Hello!

Ashley: Hi!

Tucker: Hello! Hello!

Abby: Hi!

Devon: How are you? You look beautiful.

Ashley: You look gorgeous.

Abby: Hi, how are you?

Tucker: I know we said that were only gonna stay for a few minutes, but we brought gifts.

Ashley: We brought gifts.

Devon: Gifts.

Tucker: Consider them housewarming gifts.

Abby: Thank you so much.

Devon: You two really did not have to do that.

Ashley: We wanted to help celebrate your new home.

Tucker: My mothers’ home and the joy you’ve brought to it.

Abby: Well, that is very sweet. Thank you.

Devon: It is.

Ashley: Yeah.

Abby: You look happy.

Ashley: I am happy. I’m happy, yeah. Very happy.

Abby: You work things out with uncle jack?

Ashley: No, I wish. I wish. But I think diane has poisoned his mind to the point where I don’t even recognize my brother anymore.

Abby: I’m sorry.

Ashley: I know, but let’s not let them spoil this, okay?

Tucker: No.

Ashley: Because things are finally falling into place for me and my future.

Phyllis: Hey. Heather, hi.

Heather: Hi.

Phyllis: Okay, so, tell me. Were you able to, um, convince christine to drop the charges?

Heather: No.

Phyllis: Are you serious? Even though we have a statement from carson that I killed jeremy stark in self-defense?

Heather: She wouldn’t budge.

Phyllis: I have an eyewitness.

Heather: I understand. Christine somehow thinks you convinced carson to say what you needed him to say–

Phyllis: Oh, that’s ridiculous! Seriously?

Heather: She’s not buying your story, phyllis. She wants to take this to trial.

Phyllis: I’m sure she does. You know why? Because she’s obsessed with me. She’s obsessed with bringing me down.

Heather: I don’t think it’s personal this time

Phyllis: Oh, really? Oh, it’s not personal? She’s hated me for decades.

Heather: Okay. Take a breath. She’ll still need to convince a jury beyond a reasonable doubt.

Phyllis: Which she can’t do, right? She can’t do. I mean, obviously I’m innocent. I mean, we have a statement from carson.

Heather: That’s– that’s the hope and the plan.

Phyllis: Okay. Good. So, I mean, I don’t want to take my chances for carson to, I don’t know, maybe change his mind and mess this up for me.

Heather: Do you think that he might?

Phyllis: I don’t know. I don’t know. I– shouldn’t we… shouldn’t we be putting him in protective custody or something like that so no one can get a hold of him and make him recant his testimony.

Heather: Why would anyone want to do that?

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Billy: I’m not surprised that ashley’s making this play. She absolutely despises diane. No offense.

Diane: None taken.

Billy: Look, jack, I’m just gonna say it, okay? And I’ve already told diane that I think this is the right play. We have her step down from jabot.

Jack: No. Absolutely not.

Billy: Just hear me out for a second, okay? Diane is not in the picture, we take away any ammunition that ashley has to come after us. She’s got nothing else.

Jack: The answer is still no.

Billy: Jack–

Jack: We are not going to cave to ashley. I’m not going to do it. She has worked too hard for her position in this company. She deserves it. And I’m not taking it away from her because of our sister’s irrational vendetta.

Billy: So, we’re heading to war. You understand that?

Jack: If it has to be. And we will win that war.

Billy: Well, I wouldn’t be so sure about that, okay? I’ve never seen ashley this driven, this determined. If we underestimate her and her vendetta, that right there could be the worst thing we could do. It could end up bringing us all down.

Abby: So, when you said everything is going your way, were you referring to tucker?

Ashley: He’s a big part of it, yeah.

Abby: So you really think it’s worth the risk? That you can actually trust him?

Ashley: I do.

Abby: Mom, I really, really want to be happy for you–

Ashley: But you don’t believe it.

Abby: Can you blame me?

Ashley: I don’t blame you one bit. You know I’ve had doubts, right? But I’ve realized that tucker has a past. I have a past. We’ve both come into this relationship with a huge set of baggage. And I just, uh, I just realized that, um, I don’t want to be so afraid of getting hurt again that I don’t give love one more chance, abby. He makes me happy. In fact, we have an announcement we want to make.

[ Devon indistinct chattering ]

Tucker: Okay. A toast! A toast! Here you are. Um… to devon and abby, wishing you both a lifetime of happiness in this house, my mother’s house. Devon, seeing you here so happy and settled, it’s just… it’s more than a dad could wish for. And… I know that I have not, uh… I’ve not been the father, or a father even, that you deserve or needed, but, uh… I’m going to try to spend the rest of my days making up for that ’cause that’s what– what katherine would expect of me and this is what you deserve. You’re a good son. And better than I could have ever hoped for. So– and I know that you’re equally proud of abby.

Ashley: Yeah, a little bit.

Tucker: Beautiful family there that you’ve created, so that’s it. To new beginnings. To… life, love, joy and laughter.

Ashley: Beautiful.

Abby: Cheers. That was so nice. Thank you.

Ashley: That was beautiful honey.

Heather: What are you getting at, phyllis?

Phyllis: I’m just thinking out loud, that’s all. I mean, in the hypothetical. I don’t trust christine and I wouldn’t put anything past her, that’s all.

Heather: That’s all?

Phyllis: That is enough.

Heather: Okay, christine may not like you, but she’s not about to coerce a witness into lying just to stick it to you, if that’s what you’re worried about.

Phyllis: Oh, really? She’s not? Oh. You don’t know her dark side, heather. I do.

Heather: Mm-hmm. What’s going on?

Phyllis: Uh, nothing. What do you mean what’s going on? I told you.

Heather: I don’t– I don’t believe that this is about christine not liking you. I think there’s– there’s more going on here, isn’t there? Something that you’re holding back.

Phyllis: I have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about.

Heather: Michael warned me about this. Daniel warned me about this too. Phyllis, I need your complete honesty or I cannot do my job.

Phyllis: I am being honest with you.

Heather: I don’t believe that. I think you’re spinning your way out of something. Phyllis, anything you tell me falls under attorney-client privilege. Do you understand that? But if I walk into that courtroom where some other shoe might drop, I cannot defend you properly and I hate surprises. So, I’m going to ask you one last time, okay? Either come clean with me now or you’re going to have to find yourself another attorney.

Phyllis: Okay. Tucker mccall has me under his thumb and I can’t get out.

Heather: Okay. What do you– what do you mean under his thumb?

Phyllis: Tucker found carson, my only witness, and convinced him to come here and testify on my behalf. He’s holding the strings. He quite literally has my life in his hands.

Heather: Okay. Okay. I’m not just accomplished.

Ashley: So honey, what’s it like being back here?

Abby: Oh, um, it’s fine.

Ashley: Yeah?

Abby: Yeah. It’s great, actually.

Ashley: Oh. I don’t know. Wouldn’t it be a little bit awkward for you being back in the same house you were in when you were married to chance. I’d be having flashbacks.

Abby: Well, I haven’t had any of those, but–

Ashley: What?

Abby: I do feel a little guilty sometimes.

Ashley: What do you feel guilty about?

Abby: It’s just– waking up here now, like being here with devon and dominic, it just– it feels perfect. This is the life that I always wanted and I thought that I was going to have it with chance, but I guess it just wants supposed to happen that way. And that’s when the guilt creeps in.

Ashley: You don’t have any reason to feel guilty about that.

Abby: Spoken like a mom.

Ashley: Well, maybe a bit spoken like a mom, but why do you feel guilty exactly? Tell me.

Abby: Because I wanted a home. I wanted a family and I think that I tricked myself and chance into thinking that that was our happily ever after. Even though deep inside, I knew it wasn’T. But being here and waking up here every day, I mean, I just feel like I am in the right place at the right time and it feels perfect.

Ashley: Oh, honey. I want you to feel that way always.

Abby: Well, I am dying to know your news. What is it?

Devon: Hey, are those rumors that I’m hearing true?

Tucker: What rumors?

Devon: That you and ashley are gonna take her portion of jabot and start your own company?

Tucker: I don’t want to talk about business tonight. Let’s just stick to the personal news we came for. Hey, should we tell them?

Ashley: Yeah.

Tucker: You want to?

Ashley: No, you do it. You do it.

Tucker: Okay. So, well, we told you before on several occasions that we are getting married, but the news is we’re getting married in a couple of weeks.

Devon: Wow.

Tucker: So… yeah, it’s going to be a– just a small affair.

Ashley: Yeah. Small.

Tucker: Immediate family. A few close friends. We don’t know about the venue yet, but… okay. Who wants more champagne?

Ashley: I do. Keep it going. Thank you.

Heather: How long has tucker been blackmailing you? Did michael know about this? Why would you keep this from me?

[ Heather sighing ]

Phyllis: Listen, tucker was able to track down carson before any of michael’s people. And he wasted zero time in– in just trapping me into a corner.

Heather: Did you know about this when I told you that carson had come forward? Phyllis? Damn it, phyllis!

Phyllis: Okay, listen. I thought that I could work this out. I thought I could.

Heather: Okay, phyllis. I’m going to ask you a question and I want you to answer it as though your life depended on it because it just might. Carson is telling the truth, isn’t he? He witnessed stark coerce you into doing his bidding and then he witnessed the attack that forced you to kill him, right?

Phyllis: I already told you–

Heather: I know what you’ve already told me, but I want you to tell me again, okay? Because if any of this is a lie, it will come out and you, phyllis, will suffer the consequences. So far, all we have is a lot of inadmissible hearsay from your children while you were in hiding, and none of that includes a witness to stark’s death, so… was carson a witness or not?

Phyllis: Absolutely. He was a witness. He was. He saw what happened through the window and then he ran away. He knows things that a witness would know.

Heather: What does tucker want from you?

Phyllis: I– I don’t think you want to know that, it– he wants me to try to get diane jenkins out of jabot.

Heather: Okay. No thank you. I– I– I don’T. I don’t want to know that.

Phyllis: I don’t want to be a part of it, honestly. I don’T. I mean, it’s the last thing I need in my life right now.

Heather: And this is why you think we need to put carson into some kind of protective custody.

Phyllis: I’m telling you, heather, tucker mccall can’t be trusted. He can’T. He’s so shady. He has me under his thumb. It’s like I have an axe over my head that he’s holding. He literally has my entire life in his hands.

Billy: Diane stepping away from jabot would be temporary in the hopes that it’s enough for ashley to back off.

Diane: It’s a good starting point, jack. We should consider it.

Diane: I’M… I’m sorry.

Jack: You have nothing to apologize for.

Diane: No, actually I have a lot to apologize for, but, uh, I really appreciate you being in my corner. It means everything.

Jack: I am always in your corner. I’ll always be in your corner. We will find a way to deal with ashley. In the meantime… I want to focus on my gorgeous fiancéE. I missed you so much when I was in new york.

Diane: I missed you too.

Jack: What do you say we go home and make up for some lost time?

Diane: Okay. This isn’t charmin! No wonder I don’t feel as clean.

Heather: Our case does hinge almost entirely on carson’s testimony, so, it– it is important that we keep him safe.

Phyllis: Yeah. Okay. I agree. Maybe I can, um… string tucker along and make him believe that I’m making progress. It does depend on whether or not jack will forgive me for what I’ve done.

Heather: You’ve done a lot of damage to that family

Phyllis: Have I? Really? Done damage to them? Where’s this coming from? Christine? Daniel? Oh, daniel. Okay. Well I have done a lot of damage to my children, that’s for sure. And I’m more interested in making it right with them and yes, summer is part of that family too.

Heather: Okay. Then I hope you’re successful because if tucker doesn’t get what he wants he’ll pull the plug and it’s game over. We need to fast track this trial. The sooner we get this over with, the better it’ll be for you, okay?

Phyllis: I know. Listen, there is nothing more than I want than to be free. I mean, to be free of all of this.

Heather: We concentrate on deactivating tucker’s threat, and you focus on making amends, okay?

Abby: Wow.

Tucker: Well, don’t everyone speak at once.

[ Devon chuckling ]

Abby: I– it’s just, this seems very fast. I– I don’t know, I think I’m– I’m in shock.

Ashley: Well, we’re kind of in shock. Aren’t we? But, you know, tucker loves me and I love him. Look, we just really want you to be happy for us, okay?

Abby: I want to be happy for you.

Ashley: You just don’t trust it?

Tucker: I think better put, she doesn’t trust me.

Abby: I really don’t want my mom to get hurt gain.

Tucker: That’s not gonna happen, abby. That’s never gonna happen again. I swear that I’m just not gonna put my relationship with her in jeopardy ever again. You’re kinda quiet.

Devon: Just taking it all in.

Tucker: Yeah?

Devon: Yeah.

Tucker: Thoughts?

Devon: My thoughts?

Tucker: Yeah.

Devon: Uh, you know, it’s– you never cease to amaze me.

[ Tucker laughing ]

Tucker: I would not call that a full-throated, uh, endorsement of the wedding, which we would be thrilled to have from both of you.

Devon: Yeah, I mean, when it’s right, it’s right.

Abby: You have our blessing.

Ashley: Really?

Abby: Under one condition. You stop looking at wedding venues and you let devon and me throw your wedding here at the house.

Tucker: Oh, man?

Ashley: Come on.

[ Ashley chuckling ]

Abby: Okay?

[ Ashley laughing ]

Tucker: Yeah?

Devon: Yeah.

Diane: Thank you. Oh, this is nice.

Jack: This is so nice.

Diane: So nice. It almost feels normal.

Jack: I promise you there’s going to be a whole lot of normal once– never mind, I’m not going to talk about ashley.

Diane: Thank you.

Jack: It only makes us mad and I don’t want to spoil the moment.

Diane: Agreed, so… what do you want to talk about instead?

Jack: You decide.

Diane: No, you go ahead.

Jack: Um… I will say, I was surprised to hear that phyllis just showed up. What? What?

Diane: Come on. You’ve gone from talking about one woman who hates me to another that hates me even more!

Jack: You’re absolutely right, I apologize.

Diane: No, no. No, it’s– it’s fine. We can talk about her if you want.

Jack: You sure?

Diane: Oh yes, I can’t wait to talk about phyllis.

Jack: Okay, now you’re poking fun at me.

Diane: All right, maybe I am just a little. But yes, we were all surprised when phyllis suddenly came out of hiding and turned herself in.

Jack: How did she even make bail?

Diane: Well, apparently an emt, some guy named carson, uh, showed up and backed up her whole story.

Jack: Including the part about her killing stark in self-defense?

Diane: All of it.

Jack: So, this emt has a change of heart and comes back to defend her? Sounds a bit sketchy.

Diane: Well, I heard it was a, uh, a guilty conscience. He had read about me being in jail and then heard that she was still alive and on the run and then, I guess he just caved in.

Jack: Guilty conscience?

Diane: Yeah, I know. It’s a hard story to buy. But phyllis was able to use it as her get-out-of-jail card.

Jack: She may actually beat these charges.

Diane: The thought of that is nauseating.

Jack: Okay, now I’m really sorry I brought her up.

Diane: No, no it’s okay, jack. It’s fine. I mean, it’s not as if every member of our family isn’t intimately connected to this case. It’s just a really nice coincidence for phyllis.

Jack: Oh, yeah. Everything works out just fine for her. (Wheezing)

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue. With nurtec odt, I can treat a migraine

Jack: So, have you actually seen phyllis since she got back?

Diane: I did.

Jack: How’d that go?

Diane: Uh, it was strange, uncomfortable. She was at society with tucker and we were both trying very hard to be civilized. I told her that I was moving past the anger and I just wanted to get on with my life.

Jack: And how did she respond?

Diane: Um, I don’t know. She seemed remorseful, but with phyllis you– you wonder if it’s all an act. I mean, she is really good at faking things. I don’t know, I’d like to believe she was sincere, but–

Jack: Oh, no, no. I’m on your side there. Something about this whole thing is off, and with phyllis in the middle, it’s even more suspicious.

Diane: You know what? I almost don’t care if she beats it.

Jack: I do. After everything she put you and our family through, there are some things you can’t just walk back.

Diane: Yes, but with ashley and tucker coming after me now, the last thing I need is more conflict with phyllis.

Jack: Oh, no, no. She doesn’t want that. Look, if she’s able to beat these charges, and that’s a giant if, she is going to be working her tail off to mend fences with summer and with daniel. She won’t have time for anything else.

Diane: Yeah, summer came over the other night looking for kyle.

Jack: And?

Diane: It didn’t go well.

Jack: I’m not that surprised. Kyle is really angry. He feels she betrayed him. And you know how fond I am of summer, but I– I don’t see an easy way out for those two.

Diane: I just hate the mess that this whole feud with phyllis has caused everyone.

Jack: Listen to me. This is not your fault.

Diane: No, but my age-old battle with her is at the center of all of this. And all we’ve done is– is just hurt the people we love.

Jack: Listen to me. The people you love love you. And where there is love, there is always room for forgiveness.

Phyllis: I will make things right with summer and daniel.

Heather: I know you’d like to, but–

Phyllis: No, no, no. I will. I will make things right for my children. My life isn’t going to be dictated by tucker mccall. That already happened with jeremy stark. That’s not happening again. I’m shedding my skin. If I get the chance, I swear, heather, if I get the chance, big changes will be coming. Big changes.

Billy: Well, wouldn’t that be something?

Ashley: I don’t know what to say.

Tucker: Yeah, me neither. I’m– I’m so touched though. And surprised.

Abby: That we would want to host your wedding?

Ashley: Yes, I mean, we didn’t know how you would feel about us even getting married, so–

Devon: I mean, we can’t say it hasn’t been challenging.

Tucker: Sure, I understand you weren’t so sure about my intentions.

Abby: There’s something different. I’ve noticed it all night. The way that you’ve been looking at each other. It looks like you’re genuinely falling in love.

Tucker: Well, I got to tell you guys, I’m just– I’m very touched that you would offer to– to host this wedding in my– in my mom’s house. Are you sure you want to?

[ Both chuckling ]

Devon: Hey, if you’re up for it, then absolutely.

Abby: Yes. We want to support you.

Tucker: Wonderful.

Devon: So, that settles it then.

Ashley: Yay!

Tucker: All right.

Devon: Congratulations are in order.

Tucker: Thank you!

Abby: Congratulations!

Tucker: Yes. Thank you. Cheers.

Ashley: Cheers. Relapsing ms isn’t the only thing I have going on.

Abby: I surprised you, didn’t I?

Devon: A little bit.

[ Abby chuckling ] A little bit. Just ’cause you haven’t been the biggest cheerleader of their relationship.

Abby: I know.

Devon: So, was your offer genuine or is there more to it?

Abby: Look, to be honest, I have had a really hard time picturing tucker be a part of my mom’s life.

Devon: Yeah, I know you have. So, what’s changed?

Abby: Just looking at her tonight, she was so happy. It’s like she actually trusts him despite their past and that she thinks that maybe he finally could be the one.

Devon: I hope she’s right.

Abby: You don’t think so?

Devon: I didn’t say that.

Abby: You sound doubtful.

Devon: No, I’m not doubtful. I’ve just learned over the years to go with the flow when it comes to tucker. That’s all. ‘Cause that flow can switch up midstream. But I do have to admit that– that look that you say you saw on your mom’s face? I saw it on his, too.

Abby: True love.

Devon: Yeah.

Abby: Right?

Devon: Yeah.

Abby: That’s why I want to throw them a wedding. As long as you’re okay with it.

Devon: Absolutely.

Abby: Really?

Devon: Absolutely, yes.

Abby: Yay!

Billy: It’s nice to see you, heather. I didn’t know you were back in town.

Heather: I’m, uh, I’m taking phyllis’s case.

Billy: Oh, wow. Does she have a prayer?

Phyllis: Oh, I have more than a prayer. I have an eye witness and innocence on my side.

Billy: I’m glad to hear that. Well, good luck.

Heather: I’ll get right to work on the carson issue. I think that your instincts are right. We need to act fast. I’ll be in touch.

Phyllis: Uh, heather, um, thank you. I mean that. Thank you.

Heather: Of course.

I do want to share something with you.

Phyllis: What do you want to share with me?

Billy: It’s about summer.

Diane: Oh.

[ Door slams shut ]

Jack: Oh.

Ashley: How was new york?

Jack: Oh, I think you know how new york went.

Ashley: Just protecting my interests.

Jack: No, you’re not. You’re using diane’s history as a tool for you and your greedy little boyfriend to carry out your little power play.

Ashley: Or I’m saving you from yourself.

Jack: Can we just drop that pretense? You don’t care about me or anything but getting what you want out of this.

Ashley: That is simply not true, but you know what? You can think whatever you want. You can’t stop me.

Diane: All right, that’s it. I’m out.

Jack: Wait, what does that mean?

Diane: That means that I am not going to keep my job. I am walking away from jabot.

Jack: No, I’m not going to–

Diane: It’s not your decision to make, jack. I refuse to be used as ammunition for your sister and tucker to hurt the company. Or you. My mind is made up. But that leaves you with a little problem, doesn’t it?

Ashley: I don’t see a problem.

Diane: Oh, well, since you claim I’m the reason that you and tucker are making this move, the situation has been resolved. I mean, if you’re telling the truth about why the two of you are doing this, then it would be reasonable to assume that you would back off. Unless, of course, I’m just a convenient excuse. Imagine if you could get ahead of your ibs-C…

Jack: You’re not going anywhere.

Diane: Jack–

Jack: We are not giving in to her extortion. You want your part of jabot? Fine. Take it!

Diane: No!

Jack: I will sign whatever papers are necessary in the morning.

Diane: Jack, I won’t let you do that.

Jack: It is done!

Ashley: Are you serious?

Jack: I am dead serious.

Ashley: You’re so disgusting, jack. You would actually give away such a large portion of the company you spent your whole life building because of her? Keeping her at jabot?

Jack: I would say that’s a hell of a lot better than tearing apart the family company

Ashley: Just stop, jack. You’re actually willing to do this for diane?

Jack: I would do that and a lot more for the woman I love.

Ashley: Unbelievable.

Jack: What is wrong with you? All of this to get her out of the company, out of the family? You want war? I’m ending it right now.

Tucker: Hey. What’s going on?

Ashley: Jack’s caving.

Diane: No, he’s not.

Jack: Diane–

Diane: I will not let you throw it all away for me. I’m out.

Devon: I was just thinking about something.

Abby: Uh-oh.

Devon: Why say “uh-oh?”

Abby: We– normally, when you say something like that, it’s something serious.

Devon: Oh. Well… it is serious.

Abby: Should I be worried?

Devon: No. You should not be worried at all. I was just thinking about how… you and I have never really talked about marriage before. You know?

Abby: Yeah. You’re right. We haven’T.

Devon: We talked about everything else. Talked about raising dominic together. Talked about living here in this house as a family. We’ve been best friends for a very, very long time

Abby: Mm-hmm.

Devon: So, I don’t know. Today just kind of gave me the idea that maybe we should talk about it.

Abby: Yeah. I love that idea.

Devon: Do you?

Abby: Yeah.

Phyllis: What is it about summer? Did something happen?

Billy: No, not at all. It’s– it’s a good thing.

Phyllis: Really? Okay because good things haven’t been coming my way.

Billy: I just wanted to share with you how impressed I’ve been with her. She, uh, she handled herself really well. You know with the confusion, the sadness. Believing that you had died.

Phyllis: Hm. God forgive me for that, right?

Billy: The point is, she did it. She’s grown up. She’s become quite a woman. And I know her and kyle, there’s, you know, conflict there, but she’s pushing though that as well. And I think you should be proud.

Phyllis: I am proud.

Billy: Just be careful not break her spirit.

Phyllis: This situation changed me. It did. I realize I have a lot to lose if I don’t turn things around and be the person my family loves. Not only loves, but respects.

Billy: I wanna believe that.

Phyllis: Well, I gotta show you then.

Billy: Yes, you do.

Phyllis: Um, I have a question. How did– how did kyle and jack react to me turning myself in?

Billy: Kyle, I have no idea. Jack was skeptical. Of course, diane wants to see you walk the plank.

Phyllis: Oh, of course. Of course she does. That would be a mild punishment.

[ Billy chuckling ]

Billy: Look, I’m pulling for you, okay? If anyone’s able to pull themselves out of the inferno, that’d be you.

Phyllis: Thanks.

Billy: You got it. Your lawyer needs you.

Heather: We need to talk. Privately.

Billy: Good to see you.

Phyllis: Bye.

Billy: Bye, heather.

Heather: Bye.

Phyllis: What is it?

Heather: It seems carson has disappeared.

Billy: Well… if those are marchetti’s fall designs, watch out fashion world. Someone’s here to shake it up.

Chelsea: Haha. Very funny.

[ Chelsea sighing ] I doodle when I’m nervous.

Billy: What are you nervous about?

Chelsea: This new job. It’s kind of a big deal.

Billy: It’s not kind of a big deal. It’s actually a really big deal.

[ Chelsea sighing ] But in the best possible way. You are going to impress everyone at marchetti with your talent, I guarantee it. And not that you need it, but I got you a little something. You know, a little good luck charm for your first day.

[ Summer sighing ]

Audra: Thank you.

Kyle: You know, I am getting late for my first day.

Summer: Damn it! Just admit that you slept with audra. You can give me that much at least.

Kyle: Summer, I am not doing this here.

Summer: Just yes or no. Say it.

Kyle: Summer.

Summer: Tell me the truth!

Kyle: I did. I slept with audra and now you know for sure.

Summer: What an idiot. Oh, my god. What a fool. I believed that there was still hope for us. I was trying to talk to you, I was trying to fix it and you already moved on and you didn’t even have the guts to tell me? I– I guess I’m glad that I know now. There never was any hope for us.

Kyle: I guess not. So, are we done here?

Audra: Thank you.

Summer: You really are something else.

Audra: Thank you.

Summer: It’s not a compliment. I’m just curious. Is kyle another random hookup to you or did you have your sights set on my husband and his money before you even knew that I had moved out?

Victor: Once adustus has become a strong, viable company, we’ll make it a subsidiary of newman enterprises as it should’ve been long ago.

Adam: Wha– wha– I thought we had an agreement.

Victor: I don’t give a damn about past agreements. This is how it will work. If you don’t like the new arrangement, walk out the door! I want an answer now!

[ Phone chiming ]

Sharon: Adam?

Adam: Hi.

Sharon: Am I wrong to hope that this is about adustus? The value of focusing on a new beginning rather than the slights of the past?

Adam: Um, I thought about it.

Sharon: And? Tell me.

Adam: Well, I think that we should wait until, um… until nick gets here.

Sharon: Could this be the first meeting of genoa city’s new power trio? There are times, I wonder…

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Billy: Bees are good luck. They symbolize hard work, adapting to new challenges and new beginnings.

Chelsea: I wasn’t aware you were such an expert.

Billy: Yeah, katie got stung by a bee while on the swings at the park this one time. She became very nervous around them, so victoria and I thought it would be a good idea to learn about all the amazing things that bees do. Katie became obsessed and started rattling off facts about them, so they wormed into my brain. Now, down on to your wrist.

Chelsea: Well, thank you. It’s the perfect gift. I love it.

Billy: You know, I would’ve expected you to be more excited than nervous about your first day. You’re about to reenter the fashion world, where, let’s be honest, you are a superstar and your instincts are even better now than they were then.

Chelsea: Your faith in me almost drowns out the alarm bells going off in my head.

Billy: Mm. That bad, huh?

[ Chelsea sighing ]

Chelsea: It’s just been so long since I’ve been a part of the fashion world. You know? I walked away from everything. When all that stuff happened with adam, I convinced myself that a new career and a new direction is what I needed and there would be no looking back, and yet, here I am. I mean, am I fooling myself? Am I taking a step forward or is this just one big, giant step backward?

Nick: Don’t tell you’re backing out on our handshake.

Sharon: Handshake?

Adam: I suggest we not start this new era of sibling detente with doubt and negativity. Look, after listening to what you had to say and after hearing nick’s arguments, I have reconsidered. I’m going to stay at adustus, I’m going to work with my brother and I’m very interested in hearing about your merger idea.

Nick: We shook on us all three working together.

Sharon: Well, that sounds like more than just interest. That sounds like a deal.

Adam: Well, um, nick made me see that dad’s tactics may suck, but his strategy is exemplary. I can keep fighting him or I can choose good business.

Sharon: And joining forces is good business. I’m happy. This is wonderful. Thank you for convincing him. I know that you had your own concerns.

Adam: Yes, nick. Thank you.

Nick: Sure. I know dad tried to act like he he didn’t care if you or vic or I went along with this plan, but I know he was secretly hoping that you would change your mind. Have you told dad the news yet?

Adam: Well, that is my next order of business. Pop has extended his, “I need an answer now” ultimatum, but, uh, based on the text I just got, he’s growing impatient.

Sharon: Well, I know that doesn’t surprise you. This is the right thing for all of us, I am sure of it.

Audra: Little tacky, don’t you think?

My a1c was up here; now, it’s down with rybelsus.

Sharon: The more I look into it, the more I am convinced that these two companies are a perfect fit. Your plan for adustus international is to focus on media, kirsten incorporated’s core business creates the technology that distributes that media.

Nick: Synergy. Control the product and the delivery. Automatic cost saver.

Sharon: Well, the appeal is not just practical. I think that this could be really special.

Nick: I agree. I find it more appealing to create something new rather than just, you know, help newman enterprises continue down its well-established path.

Adam: Oh, look at you walking away from newman, no bitterness at all. My big brother, the role model.

Nick: I can back out right now, just say the word.

Adam: Hey, if you wanna do it.

Sharon: Okay, you guys, enough. I’m not ready to play mediator yet.

Adam: Okay, look, I’m all in. Seriously. We all bring unique skillsets and a diverse background to the table and we can all claim media experience. I’ve run newman media, and you and sharon, you’re at the helm at restless style. Not to mention the entrepreneurial spirit that we all have.

Sharon: Well, you really are seeing it now, aren’t you? The potential. What the three of us could create together. It could be incredible.

Nick: I don’t even have something sarcastic to say.

Adam: Me neither.

Sharon: Well, then, we know it’s a good idea.

Adam: Except for one thing. We better lay out our plans to victor before he changes the terms or he yanks our potential entirely.

Billy: I don’t see the move to marchetti as anything but positive, but of course, you need to be the one comfortable with it.

Chelsea: Well, I am, almost. I just– I thought I closed that chapter of my life, you know? I had my peace with the fact that that world was behind me. And I really liked working at omegasphere, but then this opportunity came around and I– [ Sighing ] You know this is gonna be a lot different than designing, right? I mean, creative director? It’s a massive responsibility. I will be in charge with shaping the vision for a global brand. I mean, I’m gonna have to inspire designers under the lights on the biggest catwalk there is?

Billy: Yeah. All of that is true, but give yourself a break, you know? You haven’t even stepped foot in the office yet. And I know that there are a million ideas up there just waiting to come out.

Chelsea: Oh, yeah. It’s all I can think about.

Billy: Well, there you go. I’m here. Lay a few on me.

[ Chelsea chuckling ]

Chelsea: Uh, okay, um. Well, first, I think we need to revamp the ready-to-wear collection, then we need to tweak fenmore’s collaboration a little bit. I feel like it could be more working mom friendly, you know? Oh! And, um, marchetti home, it never really took off, but I feel like there’s so much potential there and I also have this idea, um, for a concept for a fashion show, where I think it– what?

Billy: You’re gonna crush it.

Summer: To be clear, I do blame kyle, but that doesn’t stop me from being disgusted by the both of you and the damage that you’ve done.

Audra: Done to whom? Are you the victim here? No part in the destruction of your relationship? Girl, if that’s the case, then walk away, you know? Hold your head high. Show some class.

Summer: You’re talking to me about class? You don’t know anything about class. Yes, kyle and i might not be together right now, but we have a son together and I will protect him no matter what, especially from his dad’s mistakes.

Audra: Okay, um, listen, I have zero interest in interfering with your little family unit, uh, but, it looks like to me that you’re just using your son to, you know, justify this self-righteousness anger about me and kyle working together and… other things.

Summer: You say that don’t acknowledge kyle’s free will, but it sure seems like you think that you have total control over everything. That you can just say and do whatever you want.

Audra: Yeah, well self-doubt isn’t my thing.

Summer: Obviously, hubris is.

Audra: All right, look, you’re the one who got burned here. You thought you could do whatever you wanted and kyle would just be right there waiting for you. Look where that got you.

Kyle: What’s going on here?

[ Kyle sighing ] Trying to control my asthma felt anything but normal.

Victor: Hello. What a nice surprise. Does that mean you are accepting my terms?

Nick: We will agree to everything you proposed. The adustus/kirsten merger makes sense for all of us.

Victor: Well, I’ll be damned. That’s nice to hear.

Sharon: Nick and I have worked together successfully before, of course, and the three of us compliment one another. Our strengths, weaknesses, our personalities. There’s no ceiling on what we can accomplish as a team.

Victor: Great. How about you, adam? You on board? You walked out of here last night.

Adam: I’m on board. I’m not as thrilled about your plan as these two. I believed that I was getting total autonomy, as you know. And now, I’m under your thumb, dad. As well as victoria’S. Maybe even nick’S.

Victor: Well, now, I don’t like the sound of that. Are you saying we’re having a problem or what?

Summer: Audra and I were just having a little chat. It’s all good. Hey, just a little tip, woman to woman, you might want to think about changing your perfume because yours is really strong. It smells cheap. I think that kyle can still get you a discount at jabot if you want.

Kyle: Okay. Hey, what just went down here?

Audra: Well, summer is clearly having a difficult time accepting that her marriage is over. She’s still in love with you.

Kyle: Well, doesn’t seem to matter at this point, does it?

Audra: It does to her.

Kyle: We have both hurt each other too much to go back to the way things were.

Audra: You sure about that?

Chelsea: Crush it? Really? I think that’s overly optimistic at this point.

Billy: No, not at all. Chelsea, you are. You’re gonna crush this. I mean, you’re gonna conquer the fashion world, or shall I say reconquer the fashion world. You’re a perfect fit for marchetti’s creative director. Summer believes it, I believe it, now you have to believe it.

Chelsea: Thank you for always being my biggest supporter.

Billy: You’re positively glowing from all the excitement, whether you see it or not, and that says to me that this is a huge step in the right direction. I’m so proud of you. You’re making bold, brave choices. And you’re strong and it’s a thing of beauty. So, am I gonna see you at the break room later?

Chelsea: Maybe, but I’m actually meeting summer here first and then I think we’re headed to the office.

Billy: Oh, wow. Look at you, boss lady. Well, once again, congratulations on your first day, but like I said, you’re not gonna need it.

Chelsea: I’m holding on to this, though, just in case.

Billy: Good idea. I’ll see you later.

Chelsea: Okay.

Adam: Look, I meant what I said. I’m ready to go. My, uh, new partners here gave me some good advice and I took it.

Victor: Huh. What was that?

Adam: Waiting for you to change is futile and it’s not gonna happen, but our team’s beacon of hope believes that achieving great success will prove that we don’t need to be controlled.

Victor: Sharon, I must tell you that the idea of merging the two companies was a very good one.

Sharon: Thank you, victor.

Victor: And adam, I hope that by working together with nicholas and sharon that you will get rid of that chip on your shoulder regarding your sister, victoria, and this will disabuse you of the idea of destroying newman media. Working together with them gives you a whole new future to look forward to, right?

Adam: Well, thank you for the life advice, pop. Now, I only have one requirement before I fully commit to this. That you give us six months absolute free reign. These hands used to hold me as a little girl.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Audra: No one really knows what goes on inside a marriage. It’s up to you and summer to decide if it still can be saved.

Kyle: Why? Do you think this is just a separation?

Audra: Well, is it? Look, I’m thrilled to be working together, and clearly, we’ve been having a lot of fun, but if you’re having second thoughts about any of it, just let me know. I can handle it. All right, well I have a meeting to get to and I think you do as well. I might have some free time later, I don’t know. You can let me know then.

Chelsea: Look at you with that healthy attitude of growth and maturity.

Billy: Pretty impressive, isn’t it? I’m just simply taking a page out of your book, you know? You seem to have really good relationships with your exes.

Chelsea: Except when I went off the deep end over adam and sharon.

Billy: You had a stroke. I would chalk that up to a severe medical issue.

Chelsea: Oh, that’s generous, but the rough patch I went through definitely lasted longer than I care to admit.

Billy: But you came out the other side. I mean, look what you’ve overcome. I mean, I see a fully realized beautiful woman in front of me that deserves happiness.

Chelsea: Well, you make me happy.

Billy: Back at you. You know, I guess that’s why I’m okay with lily and daniel. Because it allows me to move on as well.

Chelsea: And is that what you’re doing?

Billy: Pretty sure I am, yeah.

Chelsea: You know, connor is spending the night tonight at the ranch.

Billy: Is that right?

Chelsea: I can’t believe I just said that out loud.

Billy: Yeah, you did say that out loud, but you can take it back, you know.

Chelsea: I don’t want to take it back. I’m feeling very strong emotionally, mentally.

Billy: But.

Chelsea: But… it’s been a long time since I’ve… been with someone.

Billy: You’ll be okay. It’s like riding a bike.

Summer: Hi.

Chelsea: Summer, hi! It’s great to see you.

Summer: Happy first day at marchetti. I know that you’re probably very ready to get to the offices and tour them and meet your whole team, but I just thought it might be nice for us to sit down and chat, just us two first.

Chelsea: Yeah, of course. I have to tell you, I’m so grateful and so excited about this opportunity. I’m not gonna lie, I had some butterflies earlier, but billy helped talk me out of them. He’s got a knack for helping me recognize how I’m feeling.

Summer: That’s so nice that you have such a supportive partner.

Chelsea: Yeah. It is nice and he actually gave me this, um, good luck on your first day of work gift. Oh, and i should warn you, when you get back to your office, you will most likely be greeted with a ridiculous amount of flowers and a very nice bottle of champagne. He’s very excited about this new beginning.

Summer: Yeah, this is a new beginning, right? It’s gonna lead to a new success and we have come such a long way since I was modelling your designs for jabot way back when.

Chelsea: That’s for sure.

Summer: We’re both in new roles and I’m still getting my footing as ceo, so we’re just gonna figure it all out together, see what works for us. I mean, kyle and I, we would always do weekly, um, weekly status meetings, but I’m so sorry. That’s irrelevant. We are gonna figure out the best path for the two of us.

Chelsea: Great. I’m sure this situation with kyle is very difficult. I find talking about things helps, so if you ever need to vent, I’m here to listen.

Billy: Yo. Mind if I join you?

Kyle: I was supposed to be meeting with someone, but they just texted that they’re cancelling.

Billy: Great. I’ll take that as a yes. So, newman, huh? Newman media. Right hand to audra charles. Jack’s disappointed. I get it. You wanted a change of scenery, so you made the jump

Kyle: Well, it’s my first day, but so far, it feels like a good fit. And billy, before you ask, taking this job had nothing to do with my dad choosing summer over me. I’m not trying to get back at him.

Billy: Okay.

Kyle: Okay. What aren’t you saying?

Billy: I’m not trying to ride you. I’m not. I get it. I’ve been in that situation, you know? It’s kinda like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. You don’t feel like you have options.

Kyle: Hey, hey, I had plenty of options. I didn’t take the newman media job out of desperation.

Billy: Okay, good. Well, good luck with that. I know audra can be a handful.

Victor: So, what do both of you think about adam’s demand?

Sharon: I think we’re all in agreement.

Nick: Yeah. It’s a reasonable request, dad. Give us time to see what we can do. Turning around these two struggling companies while merging them together is no small feat, but I believe we can do it. I have faith in us. But you looking over our shoulders and weighing in on every move we make isn’t going to allow us to get the results we need.

Adam: That’s all we ask. Just a little hands off period.

Victor: Three months. Gives me enough time to realize what your intent is. If you intend to use the company to go after victoria.

Nick: Obviously, I’m not on board with any attempt an attack on newman media and neither is sharon and we have made that very clear to adam.

Adam: Wiping out newman media might have had some appeal before, but I see a very different option.

Victor: What’s that?

Adam: Well, adustus-kirsten isn’t going to be a standalone company for long. You plan to bring it into the newman fold.

Victor: That’s non-negotiable.

Adam: Of course, but given what the three of us have planned with the merged companies, it’s pretty inevitable newman media’s gonna become redundant.

Victor: You intend to wipeout the entire media division of newman enterprises? That’s not an option.

Adam: I don’t intend to wipe out anything. I wanna put it all together, as one big, happy company. -Fixed. -That’s my son.

Kyle: Audra and I… understand each other.

Billy: That’s good. That’s a good thing. To be honest, you probably made the right choice in leaving jabot when you did. Jack and ashley are on the verge of a civil war. Ashley seems fully content on ripping my father’s company straight down the middle. Jack and I are doing everything we can to keep it together.

Kyle: I just don’t get it. I mean, why doesn’t he cut ashley loose? He did it to me. Let her take what she thinks is rightfully hers.

Billy: So, let everything your grandfather built just go to hell?

Kyle: Well, dividing and moving on has its advantages.

Billy: I’m sorry. Are we still talking about business here? Or is that in relation to summer? Are you so hurt that you’re not willing to give her another chance?

Chelsea: Look, you’re my boss now, so I’m probably overstepping, but if you need a neutral party to confide in, someone who won’t judge, I’m your girl.

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: I don’t know.

[ Summer chuckling ] It– it’s just that kyle and I, we… we worked so hard to get to where we were. We overcame so many obstacles, but we did it and we were– we were happy. We were in love. And then, diane came back to town after years of being dead and after breaking kyle’s heart, she came back and she ruined everything. She drove my mom crazy, she pushed her over the edge and that made her susceptible to bad influences and… I– I know that kyle thinks that I never should’ve put my mom first, but she’s my mom, you know? What choice did I have?

Chelsea: Yeah. I have a very, um, shall we say colorful mother as well and she’s put me in very difficult situations.

Summer: Okay, so what would you do? What would you do if you thought that you were gonna lose your mom forever?

Chelsea: Summer, that must have been terrifying for you.

Summer: It was. I felt like I had her entire future in my hands, you know? And if I could go back and do it all over again, I– I– I don’t know what I would do. But that doesn’t matter because I can’t do that, you know? All that matters is that this whole thing has destroyed my marriage. And kyle didn’t even take a moment to grieve. No, he moved on like that. He got a job at newman media, he– he slept with audra charles. Yeah. He won’t even think about forgiving me when we have forgiven each other for so much in the past and… this is the thing. I didn’t do any of this against kyle. That’s not what it was about. It was for my mom and the fact that he won’t even try to understand that, it just makes me feel like our marriage, our– our love, the vows that we took, it makes me feel like all of that stuff was a lie.

Chelsea: Summer, I– I get it. I really do. All the relentless questions that pound away at you when a marriage ends. All the doubts that creep in about yourself, about your relationship… the thing is about those questions though is they rarely get answered, you know? Because we can’t change how somebody feels. We can’t force them to forgive us. All we can do is try to forgive ourselves, you know? And not focus on things that we have no control of.

Summer: I don’t know how to do that. I don’t know how to move on without… answers.

Adam: Look, dad. It’ll work. We fold kirsten incorporated into adustus and then we take that entity and we merge it with newman media.

Victor: Mm-mm.

Adam: Listen. We’ll have a powerful media company under the corporate umbrella with no redundancies, but most importantly, no competition.

Nick: The idea does have merit.

Sharon: I agree that if we don’t combine everything, newman media and adustus will technically be in direct competition and there’s nothing to be gained by that.

Victor: What you’re all forgetting is that there’s a leadership structure in place at newman media, yeah? Victoria loves her people, she’s very loyal to them and right now, audra charles is the ceo at newman media. What’s gonna happen to her?

Adam: You wanna keep things in the family, right, dad? This is a way that we can make that happen. Postmenopausal women with hr+ her2-

Chelsea: It’s hard to let go of the vision you have for your marriage. Of the future you were expecting to have, especially if you thought this person was the love of your life, and certainly if a child is involved.

Summer: Exactly. I love harrison so much. It’s literally killing me to not be with him every single day, and that kid, he’s already gone through so much loss in his life. I just want– I don’t get how kyle can’t see what he is doing to harrison. Like, how can he think that abandoning our marriage like this is the right thing to do?

Chelsea: Summer, I’m gonna say something that’s gonna sound kind harsh, and I’m sorry, I really am, but… sometimes when things are over, they’re just over. And recognizing the truth about a situation is sometimes the best thing we can do for ourselves, you know? Clinging to the past, I mean, it gets us nowhere, so maybe you just have to take kyle at his word. He’s told you what he wants, and from what you’ve told me and what you’ve shared, he’s shown you as well. So, stop torturing yourself with “what ifs” and “if I had onlys” and “I wish I had justs” and focus on what you can control. Live in the present, not the past.

Kyle: Okay, summer and i are over and honestly, it’s liberating.

Billy: Liberating? I’ve had more than a few breakups. I’ve never said that its liberating.

Kyle: Summer would feel the same way, eventually. I know she will.

Billy: Yeah, that’s the thing. You can’t dictate how other people feel.

Kyle: Billy, I want what’s best for summer. I do. And we’ve been friends over the years, on and off, we can go back to doing that, but there is no marriage left to save, not after what she did.

Tucker: So, what’s your strategy? Well, what are you gonna do? How you gonna push diane over the edge, phyllis?

Phyllis: What?

[ Phyllis laughing nervously ]

[ Both chuckling ] Are you kidding? Really? Slow down and keep your voice lower.

Tucker: Are you gonna go for, like, sincere and contrite, which knowing you, it’s gonna be difficult to pull off convincingly.

Phyllis: Well, I find that to be incredibly rude.

Tucker: You beg for mercy? Or do you already have a grander plan of attack in mind?

Phyllis: I told you I’d take care of it. I will.

Tucker: You know what I would do? I would win jack and kyle back to your side. That is the surest way to make diane self-destruct. Jack and kyle. They are the key.

Diane: I’m sure the authorities will know how to handle her.

[ Ashley laughing ]

Ashley: Well, they can try. From what I understand, she’s not gonna face any real prison time possibly. I mean, doesn’t that just piss you off considering what she did to you? Doesn’t it make your blood boil?

Tucker: You remember when jack and kyle forgave diane? And all your, uh, rending of garments and gnashing of teeth until you went for your ultimate payback?

Phyllis: I do remember.

Tucker: So, I’m going for kind of a symmetry here. Only this time, you walk away scot-free and jack forgives you. And this time, it’s diane’s head that explodes.

Phyllis: Um, all right.

[ Phyllis sighing ] Give– give me a second to work this out, okay? I just made bail a couple of hours ago. I need some time to, you know, lay the groundwork.

Tucker: It’s fine. Just keep in mind how much you owe me. ‘Cause I– I brought carson here at great personal expense and he is your salvation.

Phyllis: I’m not gonna cop out on you, tucker. I know what I’m supposed to do. I mean, how strange would it look if I was already focusing on making things right with kyle and jack before trying to heal things with my own children.

Tucker: Yeah, that’s a fair point. Plus, engaging summer in all this would help.

Phyllis: Oh, no. Under no circumstances are we using my daughter in this. You didn’t live this strong,

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Tucker: Who said anything about using summer?

Phyllis: That’s what you meant.

Tucker: No, no, no. I just meant that she is the smartest conduit to winning kyle over. If you’re able to get kyle and summer back together, that would go a long way in achieving jack’s forgiveness.

Phyllis: My daughter’s been through so much. We’re not using her as a pawn in this scheme.

Tucker: You can approach it any way you want. I just need to know I can count on you.

Phyllis: You can count on me. I already said that. I’m not gonna back down. Good.

Tucker: ‘Cause this carson guy, man, he is unpredictable. I don’t know what he’s gonna do. Really. He could cold feet last minute, disappear right before the trial and you really need him there to prove that you killed stark in self-defense. And we both know that christine williams wants to watch you burn.

Phyllis: Well, carson already gave his statement to the police.

Tucker: I could invalidate that official statement in a heartbeat. Want to watch me?

Diane: I am well aware of phyllis’s return. She turned herself in and was arrested. It really doesn’t concern me.

Ashley: Hm. Did you know that she already had her arraignment and she was granted bail? True story. And she doesn’t even have to wear an ankle monitor like you know who did. Yeah, she can go anywhere she wants. Seems kind of unfair to me.

Diane: Well, I’m sure the judge did what they thought was best.

Ashley: I can just see her right now, traipsing all around town, going to all of her old haunts, telling everybody how she was justified in framing you for murder. She could probably even show up here, begging jack and kyle for forgiveness.

Diane: I highly doubt that will happen.

Ashley: I’m not so sure. I’m really not. She’s very brazen, right? Honestly, I don’t think she’s gonna face any real punishment and– no, seriously, I don’t, even if this does go to trial.

Diane: Ashley, she killed a man. And the list goes on. I’m sure christine will take that very seriously.

Ashley: You know, diane, I wouldn’t blame you for anything you might do. I mean, phyllis’s actions really hurt jack and kyle, deeply.

[ Diane scoffing ]

Diane: I’ll be fine. Don’t you worry about me.

Ashley: Oh, right. Because of all that therapy you had. But tell me, just between us, did it actually work for you? Because I heard the last time that you were alone with phyllis, I mean, you actually had your– your hands wrapped around her neck? You were trying to strangle the very life out of her. And that was before she framed you for murder.

Diane: The fact that phyllis turned herself in shows a certain remorse to me. She knows what she did was wrong.

Ashley: Or she knew she was about to get caught anyway.

Diane: And however light or severe her sentence is, that up to the courts, you know? What can I do except live and let live?

Ashley: You’re not very good at that, though.

Diane: Oh, I– I think I am. I’ve– I learnt a lot, you know? I’m gonna focus on my own life and all the love that fills it. You know what, ashley? I bet you would be a whole lot happier if you could do the same.

Ashley: Yeah?

Diane: Mm-hmm.

Ashley: Enlighten me.

Diane: Okay. Why don’t you try forgetting about me and moving on?

Ashley: Wow.

Diane: Focus on the good in your own life.

Ashley: I would love to forget about you, diane. It’s just a little difficult. I mean, here you are. You’re everywhere. You’re in my home, you’re in my head, so.

Diane: All right. [ Scoffs ] You know what? I am not a fan of tucker’s by any stretch, but that poor guy really does love you. Maybe you shouldn’t take that for granted because what you have can be all too fleeting.

Ashley: [ Sighs ] You know, you talk a good game, you always have. But I think when you’re face-to-face with phyllis up close and personal, it’s gonna be a much different story.

Diane: I’ll keep that in mind. You know what? I have somewhere to be. Save a muffin for me, will you?

[ Ashley laughing ]

[ Door shutting ]

Tucker: What I paid carson?

[ Exhales ] A pretty penny. All I’d have to do to get him to change his story back, add a couple of zeros.

Phyllis: I get it. You’re pulling the strings. I get it.

Tucker: Can you imagine what your dear friend, D.A. Christine williams, would– would think if she learnt that your witness had been bribed?

Phyllis: If you call yourself out, you’re just incriminating yourself.

Tucker: That’s nothing I can’t handle. You, on the other hand.

Phyllis: Listen, um, I understand what you asked me, and, um, I’m doing it, I’m not gonna get on your bad side. I mean, what good would that do me, right, tucker?

Tucker: Right.

Phyllis: But I want to make perfectly clear to you that my daughter will not play a part in any of this. All right? Thank you. I got this, be patient. I mean, go with your monks up to a hilltop or something and chant, “phyllis has got this. Phyllis has got this.”

[ Phyllis chuckling ]

Tucker: Well, you know me, I can be zen or I can be ruthless. And it’s your call.

Phyllis: I understand my position in this and my part in the bigger picture, okay? And by the way, I’d like to know about your plan to bring jabot down.

Tucker: Actually, no. You’ve got all the information you need now, phyllis. Just concentrate on diane, finish the job.

Phyllis: I’ll take care of diane.

[ Tucker gasping ]

Tucker: Shh, shh, shh. (Wheezing)

Ashley: Hey, brian. How’s everything in the big apple? Sure, I have a minute. What’s up? Jack did what?

Diane: Yeah. I know the fear a man like that can– can put in you, because I– I lived it.

[ Diane chuckling ] So, for that reason, I’m not gunning for you, phyllis. I am ready and willing just to move on.

Billy: Hey.

Ashley: Hi.

Billy: How are you?

Ashley: You know, good. Nice to see you.

Billy: You too. Well, you seem chipper.

Ashley: I’m happy to touch base with my brother, that’s all. I’m sure you’ve heard about phyllis’s shocking return.

Billy: Yeah, I saw the news alert that she’d been arrested and I’m just glad she came back to face the music.

Ashley: Right. And jack told you about kyle and summer, right? They’re not doing that well obviously. They separated and summer’s moved out sadly.

Billy: Yeah, I heard about that. I was sorry to hear that.

Ashley: Yeah.

Billy: I hope they work it out, you know? They both deserve to be happy.

Ashley: Yeah. They’ve been through so much. We’ve all been through so much, right, billy?

Billy: You know I love a good family catch up, ash, but what’s going on here? Why– why am I here?

[ Phyllis sighing ]

Phyllis: Are you for real?

Diane: Yes. I– I can understand that you would, um, have some skepticism, and of course, you would be wary of my sincerity. I mean, I know would be if the roles were reversed and others wouldn’t be as generous.

Tucker: I think phyllis should absolutely be wary.

Diane: Back off, tucker.

Phyllis: This is not your business.

Tucker: You did send her to prison, where she could’ve spent the rest of her life, hm? That’s not something you just shrug your shoulders about and say, “ah, bygones.”

Diane: And yet, that’s exactly what I’m doing.

Tucker: Would you stop wasting time. Tell her how you feel! (Vo)no matter who you are…

[ Tucker sighing ]

Tucker: Diane, wouldn’t you like to just punch her in the face?

Diane: Stay out of this, tucker. You know, I bet you and ashley would love to have phyllis as an ally in the war against me, but I’m guessing you have more pressing problems to deal with right now. Ones that don’t include hating me.

Phyllis: I– I don’t know what you’re referring to.

Diane: Oh, well, you have to deal with the consequences of your actions in court. That must be nerve-wracking.

Phyllis: Hey, I want to say thank you, seriously, for your compassion, your empathy, your care toward me. It’s so appreciated.

Diane: You’re welcome.

Tucker: Really, phyllis? That’s the best you got?

Phyllis: Yeah, it is the best I have for now. Well, I am going to go. Have a great day.

Diane: See? Truce.

Tucker: That was an absolutely brilliant performance, diane. Brava.

Diane: Thank you.

Ashley: Can’t a girl even invite her own brother over so she can see him? Are things that horrible between us?

Billy: Oh, lordy. No, they’re not. But this does seem a little bit out of the blue.

Ashley: Yeah, well, I mean, I would have come by the office, but I thought I probably wouldn’t be too welcome there.

Billy: You blame us?

Ashley: I’m sorry things are so strained.

Billy: Yeah, believe me, so am I. I mean, I meant what I said when I hoped that you and jack would put all this tension behind you, but now, seems like that door has been shut.

Ashley: I don’t like it that people see me as the enemy in my father’s own company when the real enemy is living upstairs with jack.

Billy: It’s ironic you can say that with a straight face.

Ashley: I know you don’t trust tucker, but guess what? He’s not the one who’s keeping secrets around here, billy. What’s up with jack? He snuck off to new york. What’s that about?

Tucker: Yes, ma’am. That was truly masterful.

Diane: You know, you might not have realized this yet, but I really don’t care what you think.

Tucker: You know what I love most? Under all that false civility was, um, kind of a subtext of hatred.

[ Diane scoffing ]

Diane: Um, why were you and phyllis even together in the first place?

Tucker: Um, I’m going to have to give phyllis the first round. Because this whole benevolence act you got going, that’s going to backfire on you. She’s going to walk away from her charges scot-free. Yeah, you went down hard today. Without a single punch.

Diane: Go to hell, tucker.

Tucker: I’ve been there. It’s overrated.

[ Diane sighing ]

Phyllis: But that’s mine. Credit card statement that I overspent at fenmore’S.

Christine: A rental car charge.

Phyllis: Oh, I’m so bad for renting a car.

Christine: On the day that paul and I were supposed to get married. Instead, we ended up in the hospital.

Phyllis: Yeah, because somebody hit– oh, my god. You’re not insinuating that–

Christine: No one thought of you back then because nothing connected you to the crime. It was just safe to assume that it was someone paul or i had crossed in our work.

Phyllis: Yeah, yeah, someone with a motive.

Christine: You had a motive.

Phyllis: Excuse me. I had a motive to stop you from marrying paul? That would have kept you away from danny. Hell, I would have walked you down the aisle myself.

Christine: And I don’t doubt that unless you saw danny kiss me and tell me that he’d always loved me.

Phyllis: Danny kissed you?

Christine: Yeah, and you felt threatened, and you would have done anything to get me out of the way.

Phyllis: Christine, if I tried to run over every woman who’s tried to kiss one of my husbands–

Christine: You knew danny didn’t love you and you couldn’t stand our connection because you couldn’t control it and you couldn’t end it.

Phyllis: Excuse me. I think you’re living in the past. I’ve moved on. I’m married to nick now, okay? Unlike you, who’s still living in the past. Hooking up with danny and then running to paul’s side.

Christine: No. You’re really angry.

Phyllis: I’m so sorry that I stole danny from you. I really am. But honestly, I have to say this, it’s completely pathetic. Pathetic that you’re still thinking of yesterday and how I kissed danny and took danny away from you and accusing me of trying to murder you and paul because of some little piece of paper.

Christine: Yeah, a little piece of paper. And your insane jealousy and your lies about your son’s paternity and you’re obsession with danny.

Phyllis: That’s over.

Christine: You went to crazy lengths to keep danny, but I never thought you were capable of murder

Phyllis: I’m not.

Christine: And every time I have seen you since then, I’ve been looking into the face of a woman who tried to kill me and almost did. You better be prepared to say goodbye to life as you know it because it’s over.

[ Christine sighing ] Christine williams. Yes, I am aware of the media coverage of phyllis’s arrest. And– and yes, I was at her arraignment this morning. Look, this isn’t first case I have tried with this much public interest. I can guarantee you, I have everything under control.

If you have this…

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Billy: Jack didn’t inform me about his trip to new york. But it’s not a big deal, jabot has business in new york, so I would just ease up on your conspiracy theories.

Ashley: Oh, you didn’t know? I find it hard to believe that the co-ceo doesn’t know what out-of-town business his partner is up to.

Billy: Believe me, ashley, I find a lot of things hard to believe nowadays, like our conversation we had when you said that you were going to let go of this war and you were gonna move towards a more a “benign and positive” plan.

Ashley: Yeah, well, I think forming a company with tucker is definitely a– a more benign alternative than shredding jabot and my family. And I think it’s a very positive development, actually.

Billy: I guess, it depends on what you plan on taking with you when you leave jabot. The patents? Your former company? All of the above?

Ashley: Yeah, many decisions yet to be made, billy.

Billy: That’s right, many decisions. Look, I think it’s important that you know that jack sees this as a threat to jabot. Any aggressive move, we will respond in kind.

Ashley: I wouldn’t expect anything less. Anything I need to worry about?

Billy: Nothing I’m gonna talk about. Anything you wanna warn me about?

Ashley: Nope.

Billy: Fantastic conversation, sis. Really good to see you. Sure I’ll see you soon.

Ashley: Mm-hmm. There’s homemade muffins in the kitchen.

Billy: No, thank you.

Tucker: Oh, hey, billy.

Billy: Yeah, I’m never gonna get used to you having a key to this house.

Tucker: Oh, well, nice to see you too.

Billy: Enjoy the rest of your day.

Tucker: I smell tension. What did I miss?

Ashley: Trouble.

Christine: Yeah, I’m gonna have to call you back, okay. Well, look who’s already out and about.

Phyllis: You don’t need to end your call on my account. I’m not spying on you, christine. I’m just checking in.

Christine: Must be nice to be able to check in under your real name again, not have to sneak in through a back alley.

Phyllis: You know, I’m just gonna just cut to the chase. I assume you don’t believe my defense and you’re gonna do everything in your power to ensure that I go to prison for the rest of my life, right?

Christine: I hope you’re not implying that I’m gonna bend the law because of some personal vendetta. That’s your area of expertise, not mine. I’m going to prosecute this case honestly and fairly.

Phyllis: And enjoy every minute of it.

Tucker: I don’t think billy is trouble for anyone but himself.

Ashley: Don’t underestimate my little brother. He was working me as hard as I was working him.

Tucker: What were you trying to find out?

Ashley: I got a call from a colleague. We go way back, he’s loyal to me. He said that jack was in new york meeting with a board member and attorneys.

Tucker: Ah, taking steps to protect the mothership.

Ashley: Yes, he wants to take legal action, obviously, by trying to counter my move to take back what’s mine.

Tucker: Yeah, well, we did expect some kind of counterattack, didn’t we?

Ashley: So, are we organized? Because we’re gonna have to act quickly.

Tucker: Yeah, in fact, I took a look at the contracts from when you merged your company with jabot and I found a few loopholes. We just need to prove cause.

Ashley: Great.

Tucker: Yeah.

Ashley: So, you have some ideas on how to make that happen?

Tucker: I have a couple of shark toothed lawyers I can put on it.

Ashley: Good.

Tucker: So, how about we switch topics to something a little more important, a little more urgent?

Ashley: What could that be?

Tucker: Our wedding. We did tell the family the sooner the better, did we not? Type 2 diabetes?

Ashley: I really don’t think now is the time to be having this conversation.

Tucker: Why not?

Ashley: Because I’ve got too much going on, tucker. I can’t plan a wedding at the same time as I’m separating from my father’s company and fighting with jack–

Tucker: I thought we’ve discussed this. What better way to separate from your father’s company than throw our wedding in jack’s face?

Ashley: We have something else that we need to deal with. I was trying to get diane riled up earlier, remember what we said about throwing phyllis in her face to keep her off the game?

Tucker: And?

Ashley: She barely blinked.

Tucker: Ah, yeah. Sadly, I had a similar experience. Diane and phyllis have already met. I had a front row seat.

Ashley: And?

Tucker: And the showdown was painfully underwhelming.

Ashley: Details please.

Tucker: Diane was calm and reasonable.

Ashley: Exactly how she was with me.

Tucker: Right? Which really threw phyllis for a loop. Then, she recovered nicely and– and responded with gratitude. They really seemed to bond over their collective trauma from dealing with stark. It got to the point where I thought they were gonna hug it out.

Ashley: Okay, now, you’re just being mean.

Tucker: I wouldn’t really worry about it because it all seemed like one big performance. I mean, in what universe is diane and phyllis civil to each other? I think it was just smoke and mirrors.

Ashley: So, what does that mean? Do we not trust phyllis now?

Tucker: No, no, no. She knows I hold the key to her freedom. She’s not going to risk losing that.

Ashley: Right. Because everything is riding on the witness you found. She’d be foolish not to cooperate.

Tucker: I actually think it was pretty smart on phyllis’ part to play along with diane. She knows her best bet is to win forgiveness from jack and kyle. Attacking diane hinders that.

Ashley: Good point. It’s going to be difficult enough as it is.

Tucker: So, let’s just give her time. She’ll come through. In the meantime… let’s talk about the wedding.

Ashley: Okay.

Tucker: What are your thoughts about catering, the flowers? Are we gonna get a dj or a band?

Ashley: I wasn’t kidding when I said I don’t wanna talk about this, please. I’m just too distracted. I’m going to battle with jack, okay? I can’t deal with all of this right now.

Tucker: I’m not buying this. What– wha– I thought the big party, the– the ceremony, the extravaganza we planned, all fit into our plan to throw jack off balance.

Ashley: Well, maybe, that’s the whole point. Maybe, I don’t wanna use our wedding as a weapon anymore.

Tucker: So, you’re saying that marrying me for real has become more important to you?

Phyllis: Why didn’t you stay dead? Why? Why are you not dead?

[ Diane laughing ] I’ll tell you why. Because you are erased from our memory. Erased. We forgot about you. You didn’t matter to us. See, you don’t matter. And that killed you. So, you had to come back and take everything that was mine.

Diane: I wasn’t thinking about you at all.

Phyllis: You were thinking about me all the time. I am the only one who sees through your act. And I am the only one who will continue to see through everything that you do. I don’t buy these fake tears and this reformed act, it is a lie. And you are terrified that I am gonna expose your latest con, aren’t you? Terrified of me.

[ Diane scoffing ] And you should be terrified of me.

Diane: You know, jack and I are sick to death of your pathetic attempts to paint yourself as the hero or the victim, when you’re clearly, the villain. The only way you can elevate yourself is by dragging everyone else down and it is a disgusting, despicable compulsion. Your family is embarrassed by you. And your friends, look around, look around, where are they? You have used up every last bit of patience and goodwill that they had for you, and now, you’re alone. You did this! You drove everyone away! You are the reason that your life is such a dismal failure! And if you can’t get out of your own way, then just get the hell out of mine.

Phyllis: No, you’re not going anywhere.

[ Grunts ] Oh, god. You bitch. Bring it, bring it, bring it!

[ Phyllis screaming ]

Diane: I should do the world a favor and strangle you to death!

[ Diane sighing ]

[ Phone chiming ]

[ Diane sighing ]

Billy: Long day already?

Diane: Uh, it sounds about accurate.

Billy: Phyllis’s release.

Diane: Yeah, it’s, uh– it’s a lot to take in, but I got it under control.

Billy: That’s good, I’m glad to hear that because we have bigger problems.

Diane: What now?

Billy: Ashley found out about jack’s trip to new york. She’s suspicious. She was asking me if I know anything.

Diane: Well, I’m sure that was inevitable. What did you tell her?

Billy: I didn’t– I didn’t give away anything, of course, and I told her that if she and tucker strike, then we will strike back.

Diane: Good.

Billy: Look, I need to know if you’re serious about not stepping down from jabot because if you’re not, then we may very well need your help.

Diane: I’m not going anywhere and I will do whatever it takes. I am officially about to become an abbott soon and no one is going to hurt our family company without a fight.

Phyllis: No, no, christine, you’re not going to allow ancient history to cloud your professional opinion, are you?

Christine: Getting run over by a car tends to stick with you. Not to mention the numerous other ways you’ve disregarded the rules of common decency over the years to get what you want.

Phyllis: Come on, you’ve never used the justice system to support your personal grievances, have you?

Christine: The law doesn’t ignore prior infractions. That’s not how the system works.

Phyllis: Of course not.

Christine: Look, I have followed the evidence throughout this entire case, back from when I was prosecuting your supposed murder and I decided to put aside all issues with you to seek justice for your kids, only to find out that you’ve been playing on people’s emotions and wasting their time and energy and resources and for what? To satisfy some petty revenge?

Phyllis: It wasn’t petty revenge. It’s not that simple. I was in stark’s grasp.

Christine: I am gonna continue to follow the evidence and I’m just gonna let results dictate the outcome of your fate.

Phyllis: Well, the evidence is gonna show that I killed a man in self-defense.

Christine: Your evidence boils down to one man’s testimony, a man who’s already claimed that you died in that ambulance fire. So, if he’s to be believed now, that means he’s already lied at least once to authorities.

Phyllis: He lied because he was terrified as well. You don’t know stark. Stark was monster.

Christine: You know, we shouldn’t even be having this conversation.

Phyllis: No, we shouldn’T. I have other things to do.

Christine: You know, I am curious about one more thing.

Phyllis: What is that?

Christine: Since it took you weeks to decide to come forward, you must have thought through what you’d be facing.

Phyllis: Yes, I have.

Christine: Unless there’s something more that you’re not admitting to. Do you have something else you wanna confess? For people who are a little intense about hydration.

Tucker: Hey, hold on, hold on. Give me that thing.

Ashley: What?

Tucker: I want you to give it to me straight. Have your feelings about our marriage changed? Because yesterday, you couldn’t even admit that you were in love with me.

Ashley: True. Um… yeah.

Tucker: Yeah what?

Ashley: I think, you know, getting married to you for real is– is more important to me now than it was at one time. Because I think that I am… falling in love with you.

Tucker: Really?

Ashley: Mm-hmm.

[ Tucker laughing ]

Tucker: I can’t tell if you’re being sincere or this is just some clever dodge.

Ashley: No, it’s not a dodge. I just don’t wanna, you know, trivialize our wedding because then it might karmically trivialize what we have and I don’t want to do that.

Tucker: Did you just reference karma?

Ashley: I did.

Tucker: I see, as a way to slow things down a bit and make them more real.

Ashley: Yeah. You know, you don’t wanna mess with the universe, right? It would mess with us and we don’t want bad luck. We want good vibes only.

Tucker: Good vibes. Good vibes, indeed. [ Laughing ]

Ashley: Why are you laughing?

Tucker: I just, um– if this is legit, I– I couldn’t be happier.

Ashley: Yeah.

Phyllis: I’m sorry, I don’t seem to understand what you’re implying.

Christine: You’re telling me you decided to come out of hiding out of the goodness of your heart?

Phyllis: Yeah, it was my conscience that made me turn myself in.

Christine: You know, forgive me for questioning the idea that you actually have a conscience.

Phyllis: You don’t know what it was like. I was in the hands of a madman.

Christine: You did marry jeremy stark.

Phyllis: Because I was coerced, he brainwashed me. I didn’t know where to turn and my kids were suffering, so I knew I couldn’t run. I had to come back here because my kids needed me. And I needed them.

Christine: Well, maybe, you should’ve realized that before you started this whole thing.

Phyllis: Listen, I know it was a big risk to come back, but despite that, I still maintain my faith in the justice system, even though you still seem to hate me.

Christine: Despite that it took a while, I appreciate that you did the right thing. And even though you seem genuine, I’ve learned the hard way that things are never that simple where you’re concerned.

Phyllis: Well, this isn’t as cut and dry as you’re making it.

Christine: I agree with you. I don’t think you would have ever come back here unless you had the strong belief that you felt safe. That you could somehow exonerate yourself.

Phyllis: Justice is on my side.

Christine: Is it? Because something feels off here. And I am determined to find out what. I’ll see you in court.

Adam: Hi.

Sharon: Good morning, adam. Or is it?

Adam: Have you had a chance to think about my proposal?

Sharon: I have.

Adam: Okay, well, here is how I see it. I’m walking away from adustus, no matter what. I’m through doing my father’s bidding. But if I join you at kirsten’s company, we could dominate the market and we could turn victor’s master plan into a pile of dust. What do you think?

Sharon: I think you’re not going to like my answer.

Victor: So, I’ve made it clear how I want things to run from now on. Any questions?

Nick: I mean, it’s a lot to process. We’re gonna need more than a day to let it all sink in.

Victoria: I don’T. I’m completely on board.

Victor: Well, I’m glad to hear that.

Victoria: And knowing that it knocks adam down a few notches is a lovely bonus.

Victor: Well, let me make one thing perfectly clear. This is not against adam, this is not for you. This is how I’m gonna run my company from now on. I will call the shots.

Audra: Excited for your first day?

Kyle: I celebrated last night. Ready to go this morning.

Audra: Well, don’t be intimidated by the stack of work I put on your desk.

Kyle: Oh, I sketched up a few ideas I wanted to run by you after the video conference.

Audra: Good. I can’t wait to hear them.

Kyle: Yeah. I’m energized.

Audra: This is gonna be fun.

Summer: Kyle. Is now a good time to talk? Since I know that were busy last night.

Kyle: Yeah, actually, it’s– it’s not a good time.

Audra: Oh, it’s okay. You two can go ahead and talk. Um, I will head to the office. Don’t be late.

Kyle: Not a chance. This won’t take long.

Phyllis: Seriously. I mean seriously, it’s like a perp walk coming in here.

Daniel: Well, what did you expect? You’re lucky you’re even out on bail.

Phyllis: Those women, right there, their eyes are practically bugged out of their head when they saw me.

Daniel: That’ll all blow over.

Phyllis: Not soon enough.

Daniel: Really? Since when do you care what people think about you?

Phyllis: I don’t care what people think about me. But right now, I kinda do. I feel shamed, you know? And I don’t want to feel shamed, it’s a waste of energy, but I’m drowning in shame. You know, I survived this. I’m alive, it’s great. I just want to fix what I broke.

When you smell the amazing

scent of new gain flings…

Adam: If you’re turning me down, you could have just sent it in a text. I mean, it would’ve saved us both a lot of time.

Sharon: Stop it, adam, okay?

Adam: What? Am I missing something?

Sharon: Yeah, you’re doing exactly what you always do. Anytime something doesn’t go a hundred percent in your favor, you take it as a personal affront. How do you expect to partner up with someone if you get angry and storm off before a conversation even happens?

Adam: Okay. [ Laughing ] I’m still standing right here.

Sharon: I know you’re disappointed with your father’s decision and this may seem like old news to you, but I actually do see the logic in victor’s point of view.

Adam: Okay, that’s a– that’s a scary premise.

Sharon: Your father doesn’t want you taking something that could be a good opportunity and turning it into a tool for revenge against victoria.

Adam: Okay, that’s not what this is about.

Sharon: Oh, really? I didn’t just hear you say you want to turn victor’s plan into some pile of dust?

Adam: Sure. That– that was a figure of speech.

Sharon: Attacking newman media is attacking a division of the parent company.

Adam: Yeah, and then it would be survival of the fittest. What’s wrong with that?

Sharon: But why, adam? You’ve already worked hard turning mccall unlimited into adustus international. Your business plan has great promise. Why walk away from it now just because victor won’t let you destroy newman media?

Adam: Okay, wait. This isn’t about destroying anything. This is about me having some autonomy in my life. It’s about me not being at the mercy of my father’s mind games, which are never ending and always turn out badly for me. Okay, look, what I’m offering you, sharon, is my services with your new venture.

Sharon: I’m not interested in going to war with victor. What I was looking at is a merger. A joint venture of two complementary companies. If I just bring you into my company, it makes me look weak. It’s as if to say I need adam newman’s help to turn kirsten incorporated into something productive, which is certainly not the case.

Adam: Okay. I hear you. Well, then, I guess we’re done.

Sharon: I’m gonna ask you to stand there a little while longer. For your sake just as much for mine.

Victoria: I warned you from the beginning that handing adam a shiny new company to run would be trouble.

Victor: And if you had bought mccall under the umbrella of newman enterprises as I had suggested, none of this would be a discussion right now.

Victoria: Adam will always be adam, it doesn’t matter who’s signing the check. And you will always be you, dad, giving him another opportunity he does not deserve.

Summer: I hope that I’m not making you late for work.

Kyle: Not a problem. I can catch up.

Summer: I’m sure my grandpa’s happy to have you at newman media.

Kyle: It’s nice to feel wanted.

Summer: Kyle, can we please have a conversation without getting angry?

Kyle: I’m not angry.

Summer: You are. And I– I don’t blame you, but I’m– I’m trying to make things right so that we can give each other another chance.

Kyle: I don’t see that happening.

Summer: Kyle, please, just open your heart. Just a little bit so that we could talk and– and find a way to get back what we lost.

Kyle: Your betrayal hurts, summer. You lied and– and snuck around and held the key that would release my mother from a jail cell, yet you said nothing. Exactly how do you expect me to get past that?

Summer: It’s an interesting word choice. Betrayal. I protected my mom. The same as you have done. Yes, I did some things that I’m not proud of. I’m sorry. But kyle, there was no malice involved. I never wanted to hurt you. I guess for me, a betrayal, it’s more of a– of a conscious act. Intentionally hurting someone that you claim to care about.

Kyle: What’re you implying?

Summer: You tell me.

Kyle: I haven’t got a clue.

Summer: That’s a lie.

Kyle: What do you want, summer? Tell me what you’re fishing for.

Summer: I want an honest response.

Kyle: That’s funny coming from you.

Summer: I still have hope for us. I do. Maybe that’s naive, maybe– maybe that’s just wishful thinking on my part, but I really do believe that we can fix this. Unless you tell me that there definitely is no chance. Unless you’ve already crossed the point of no return. So yeah, yeah. I need you to be honest with me right now because I’ve shared my truth with you. It’s your turn.

Daniel: Yep. They’re still looking. You kinda make it difficult not to. Do you– do you want to leave?

Phyllis: No. I would like to stay at this establishment, thank you, and have some– some coffee with my son. That’s what I would like to do. I mean, all those gossip columns are gonna start saying I’m either flaunting my freedom or running from the press. I mean, I can’t win.

Daniel: Well, as of right now, you’re just sitting at a table having breakfast with your son. And I for one am glad that you’re out on bail.

Phyllis: I am too. I’m glad I’m sitting with my son. And I shouldn’t be shameful about that. I should be happy about that. And the emt agreed to give his testimony that stark was violent and I was terrified of him, and I killed stark in self-defense. So, that’s all good. You know, they took away my passport. As if I would skip town or something.

Daniel: Well, I mean, you kind of did that already.

Phyllis: Well, that was a different circumstance.

Daniel: No, no. And I’m just pointing out of the obvious here.

Phyllis: Okay, thanks.

Daniel: Okay. I– I get what you’re saying and all that, right, but you seem rattled.

Phyllis: I seem rattled?

Daniel: Yeah, it’s not like you. And it wouldn’t be noticeable to most people, but I know you. And this is different. I mean, you seem different. So… come on, what going on? You can talk to me. I– I– I’m not gonna judge you. I will just sit here and listen.

Phyllis: You do know me. You do. We’re like this. It’s a curse. Something I’ve been trying to avoid my whole life. I don’t want to hide from my kids. Hey, listen, I’m used to people pointing fingers at me. I get it. And in my life, I’ve been, sort of, you know, an agent of chaos. That was never my intention, by the way.

Daniel: Never?

Phyllis: No.

Daniel: No?

Phyllis: No. It wasn’T. I mean, listen, everything I’ve done, I’ve been able to justify for the greater good. Even with stark, I’m able to justify what I did. But now, I can’t justify and make amends at the same time.

Daniel: Make amends to who?

Phyllis: To you. And your sister. And kyle and jack. Diane. Make amends to diane. I don’t know if she’s going to forgive me, but I just wanna tell her that I am deeply sorry.

Daniel: You know, no one’s looking right now, mom, so is this for real or is this for show?

[Sfx: Oven ding]

Victoria: Daddy, no one is disputing that this is your company. You created it out of nothing and it will continue to live on, but you know that the reason you put me in charge, deep down, is because I will always do what’s best for the business. That hasn’t changed.

Nick: I’d like to say something.

Victor: Sure, go ahead.

Nick: Last night, I reluctantly agreed to move over to adustus to help run the company. What I do not appreciate is that while I am babysitting adam, you gave nate my job.

Victoria: So, now you’re gonna back on the deal?

Nick: What I’m saying is I have reasonable reservations about that.

Victor: And I happen to agree with you. But I still think that nate can be a valuable asset.

Victoria: He already is. Why are we even questioning that?

Nick: You’re right. It doesn’t matter. My opinion doesn’t count for much around here anyway.

Victor: No, son, let me hear what you have to say.

Nick: It’s just, dad, you’ve already moved all the chess pieces around. You gave nate my job. And while I’m off making sure adam doesn’t blow anything up, you have once again orchestrated it so that your adult children are doing exactly what you want, when you want it. I mean, well played.

Adam: For the record, I’m well aware that you don’t need me for this company to be successful. Doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea, though.

Sharon: You are so stubborn.

Adam: So, I’ve been told.

Sharon: Victor is just testing you. He’s doing what he always does and you are reacting the way that you always do, with hurt and anger and a need for payback.

Adam: And what am i supposed to do? Am I supposed to just sit back and let him dictate the rest of my life?

Sharon: Make a different choice. Pass the test. Imagine what we could do with kirsten and adustus together.

Adam: Need I remind you that nick is being forced down my throat in this deal? Or that victor plans to take all of it and fold it under the newman umbrella, which means, ultimately, we will have to answer to him and victoria. How do you feel about that?

Sharon: That is not an issue for me.

Adam: Sharon, zero autonomy.

Sharon: Unless we prove that we deserve it. Unless we win by becoming so successful that they have to leave us alone.

Adam: What, success is the best revenge?

Sharon: Why not? And nick can be a big asset. Imagine what the three of us can accomplish together. Building something so good and so strong that no one can take it away from us. It could be a new beginning for all of us. Think about that, adam. Think about how good it will feel to get real payback this time by proving everybody wrong.

[ Knocking ]

Chance: Hi.

Sharon: Hi, chance.

Chance: This a bad time?

Adam: Uh, no. No, we were just finishing up. Um… you’ve given me a lot to think about, so… I’ll be in touch.

Tucker: Whoa! Yeah. I know this look. Success. Something’s paid off.

Audra: It’s not the, uh, destination, it’s the journey.

Tucker: Journey.

Audra: Right. Didn’t you tell me that little cliché when you came down your little mountain or whatever? Well, it’s safe to say that the journey is going fabulous so far. How about you?

Tucker: Things are still going shockingly well.

Audra: Hm. I doubt much of anything shocks you anymore, tucker.

Tucker: And you’re still trying to turn a boy into a man, are you? Easier said than done.

Summer: Kyle, are you going to talk to me or not?

Kyle: You know, I am getting late for my first day.

Summer: Damn it! Just admit that you slept with audra! You can give me that much at least.

Kyle: I am not doing this here.

Summer: Just yes or no. Say it!

Kyle: Summer–

Summer: Tell me the truth!

Kyle: I did. I slept with audra and now you know for sure.

Summer: What an idiot. Oh, my god. What a fool. I believed that there was still hope for us. I was trying to talk to you, I was trying to fix it and you’d already moved on and you didn’t even have the guts to tell me? I guess I’m glad that I know now. There never was any hope for us.

Kyle: I guess not. So, are we done here? My late father-in-law lit up a room,

Sharon: Thank you.

Chance: So.

Sharon: So…

Chance: Last night was–

Sharon: I wanted to call you, but–

[ Chance chuckling ]

Chance: I haven’t stopped thinking about you all day.

Sharon: Me either.

Chance: I just finished my shift. Can you get out of here? Maybe we can go and grab some lunch? Go to the park? Something like that?

Sharon: I would like that very much.

Chance: Oh, no. I hear a “but” coming. How do I stop it?

Sharon: I think your best bet is that I just delay my answer.

Chance: I just– mm. I really wanna kiss you again.

Audra: You flatter me.

Tucker: How so?

Audra: Well, I know how terribly smitten you are with, um, ashley, yeah. But then you still have, you know, time to fixate on my fresh, new friendship. It’s so sweet of you to care.

Tucker: Actually, the only thing I’m fixated on is ashley’s happiness and our new business venture, of course.

Audra: Of which, there can be no doubt, I’m sure.

Tucker: I’m very confident things are gonna turn out exactly how I want them to.

Audra: And just how many rules and laws are you gonna break to make that happen, huh?

Tucker: You really enjoyed our drink last night, by the way.

Audra: It’s all right.

Tucker: Okay. Well, you enjoy your new, little friend.

Audra: Oh, I am. And you enjoy your little, uh, whatever that is.

Tucker: Ciao.

Phyllis: Oh, my god. Oh, hey! There you are! Yay!

Summer: Sorry. I got hung up.

Phyllis: All right. No problem. What’s wrong?

Summer: Nothing.

Phyllis: Is it kyle?

Summer: Mom.

Phyllis: Is it kyle? What did he say to you? Are you all right? Did he say something about me?

Summer: No! I’m fine! I– I’m fine. I’m sorry. I– look, can we just focus on you right now? I mean, you’re free, our family’s together. Let’s make the most out of that.

Phyllis: Okay, well, hey, listen. I’m not gonna be free until these charges are dropped.

Daniel: That’s right. They need to drop them altogether.

Phyllis: Well, fat chance that’s gonna happen with the D.A., Bug.

Daniel: You were feeling pretty positive just a few minutes ago.

Phyllis: Oh, don’t get me wrong.

Daniel: Especially with carson showing up right–

Phyllis: I understand and I am so grateful that he’s gonna testify on my behalf. I’m so grateful. But, there’s no guarantee that christine is gonna go along with it and it’s gonna be enough for her.

Summer: It– it has to be. You’re innocent.

[ Phyllis sighing ]

Phyllis: Guys, um, you didn’t see christine at the arraignment. I mean, she’s wanted to put me in prison since she’s known me and it would be her greatest dream realized to have me spend my life behind bars, you know, so I don’t know how this is gonna play out, with or without carson’s testimony.

Daniel: I don’t know why you suddenly seem so worried when everything’s finally going in the right direction for you.

Phyllis: Yeah, but it may not go in the right direction, is what I’m saying. I may live my life in prison away from my kids. And unless these charges are dropped, it’s ridiculous to think otherwise.

Nick: Dad, you can’t force unity, all right? It’s either there or it’s not. Clearly, you can’t make adam do anything he doesn’t want to do. Based on what happened last night, I’ll bet you anything he’s worked himself up into a full blown rage at this point.

Victor: He’ll calm down.

Nick: But you have tried to shoehorn the three of us into working together in the past. It doesn’t work. What makes you think it’s gonna work this time?

Victor: You will make him listen to reason, son.

Nick: And you expect me to do that?

Victor: You bet.

Nick: And you don’t see the absolute insanity in that?

Victor: I understand your concerns, but I have faith in your ability to make him see the bigger picture.

Nick: How can I do that? I don’t see it myself.

Victor: I said I have faith in you.

[ Nick sighing ]

Nick: Okay. It’s been fun. Catch you guys later.

Victor: All rig. Not you, darling. I want you to stay. With the freestyle libre 2 system.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue. What can you do with sensitive skin?

Victoria: You’re annoyed with me, aren’t you, dad?

Victor: Why would you think that?

Victoria: Just this entire morning. This entire conversation. I’m sorry if it upset you that I so easily accepted this deal.

Victor: I’m very happy that you accepted the logic of it.

Victoria: Well, who’s to say it wasn’t my plan all along?

Victor: Well, if it makes you happy to think it was your plan all along, then go ahead.

Victoria: Like father, like daughter.

Victor: Yeah, but be careful. Sometimes, you won’t like the reflection in the mirror.

Victoria: It’s who you raised me to be. Even if we don’t always agree, I am still the ceo who learned it all from you.

Victor: Come here. I’m proud of you, okay?

Victoria: Thank you.

[ Nick sighing ]

Nick: Adam! Hold up! How’s it going?

Adam: Is that a serious question?

Nick: Still sulking about last night.

Adam: Okay. Well, I’m gonna let sulking be your words.

Nick: Come on, man. It’s just dad being dad. He pretends to listen and then does whatever the hell he wants anyways. You can’t possibly be surprised by that.

Adam: No, but I mean you seem pretty chipper for someone who just got their job yanked away from them and given to victoria’s new boyfriend. I mean, shouldn’t you be more furious than I am?

Nick: Let’s call it a close second.

Adam: Okay, well you put on a good act then.

Nick: See, that’s the difference between you and me. What you see as an insult, I see as an opportunity.

Adam: What do you mean? Babysitter-in-chief? Is that what your dreams are now, nick?

Nick: No. But just because dad suggested it, it doesn’t mean it’s the worst idea in the world. Look, adam. You have a company to run and you have somebody who can help keep you in check while you run it. Now, you can either go off and throw the tantrum that everybody expects you to throw or you can take a step back and think about it and consider all the possibilities.

Daniel: Okay, let’s not get ahead of ourselves, all right? You cannot assume the worst.

Phyllis: Well, I can’t assume the best when all of my hopes and dreams can just be smashed in my face.

Summer: Mom, daniel is right. This can’t all have been for nothing.

Phyllis: I’m sorry what I did to you and kyle.

Summer: It’s fine.

Phyllis: No, it’s not fine. I’m going to make it up to you, I promise you, summer.

Daniel: Okay, okay. Let’s just concentrate on the next steps. Once you tell your story and once carson corroborates it, then christine will, you know, have to accept that you were coerced into committing those crimes.

[ Tucker sighing ] What was that?

Phyllis: What?

Daniel: That. Between you and him.

Phyllis: Nothing. I was just nodding. I just said hello. What are you doing? Why would you think that there’s anything going on between me and that guy?

[ Daniel chuckling ] Moving forward with node- positive breast cancer

Phyllis: So now, summer, I wanna hear about you.

Summer: No, please.

Phyllis: Please, please let me help you. This is all my fault. I just wanna help you and listen, but I can only listen if you– if you let me.

Summer: I am actually late for work.

Phyllis: Okay, summer, don’t shut me out.

Summer: Or what? Or what, mom? You’re gonna pretend to die in front of us and ruin our lives? I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I– I didn’t mean that. I really didn’t mean it. I’m happy that you’re back, I really am. I gotta go.

Daniel: Hey, you know she didn’t mean that.

Phyllis: Oh, I know. I know. I mean, she’s just upset about kyle and she’s taking it out on– I understand. Oh, gosh. I wish there was a 12-step problem for people like me who like to control things and have everybody in their life get what they want. I can listen to my kids, I can be there for my kids, I can love my kids, but I cannot fix their problems.

[ Phyllis sighing ] I can only fix myself.

Daniel: Who was that?

Phyllis: What?

Daniel: That. You, right there. Sounded very evolved.

Phyllis: I am evolved.

Daniel: No, no.

Phyllis: Yes, yes. I am evolved. This whole ordeal changed me. It did. I mean, in ways you cannot imagine, daniel. And I screwed up and I know I did, but I am going to do better. I will and I have. Whatever it takes.

Chance: I hope I wasn’t out of line asking you to ditch work like that.

Sharon: I thought it was a great idea.

Chance: But.

Sharon: I can’T.

Chance: Why not?

Sharon: I have so many calls to make.

Chance: It’s okay.

Sharon: It’s gonna take some time to appreciate cameron’s company. We have to streamline the divisions.

Chance: Hey, hey, hey. Rain check.

Sharon: Thank you. And next time will be soon. I promise.

Chance: I can’t wait. So, do you– did you take my advice? Talk to adam about coming on board?

Sharon: Yeah, we talked.

Chance: I know you were kinda reluctant.

Sharon: Yes and I told him that. I was completely honest with him, that bringing him on board as a partner makes it look like I don’t have the confidence to run this business on my own.

Chance: What did he say?

Sharon: He still wants the two of us to work against newman, but I will not have this business, my dream, become collateral damage in adam’s endless war against victor.

Chance: Good.

Sharon: I told him that merger’s the only thing that makes sense. That’s good business. But I don’t think that adam can see anything beyond his anger towards victor.

Chance: Yeah, I get that. Adam acting rationally instead of emotionally. That’s some heavy lifting. I’m being honest with you, I don’t think he’s got it in him.

Adam: You know, calling my opinion a tantrum, that’s a pretty lousy sales pitch.

Nick: Adam, I’m not gonna coddle you and I’m not gonna beg you to do this. Lord knows I’ve walked away from newman enterprises more times than I can count, but now is not gonna be one of them.

Adam: You’ve seen the light, huh?

Nick: I’ve seen the future. You can either choose to be& a part of it or not. Look, you’re not gonna turn mccall unlimited around overnight just because you changed the name. I’ve seen the numbers. It’s gonna take a lot of effort and a lot of planning and merging with sharon’s company is gonna be essential for that.

Adam: Yeah, well we’ll be under dad’s thumb again and we’ll be waiting for him to pull the strings.

Nick: Dad’s gonna want this deal whether you’re a part of it or not. Let’s just say you go off and do your own thing. Go it alone yet again. You wanna know what’s gonna happen? Sharon and I are gonna end up running the company and we’re gonna be able to use all the power and influence that newman enterprises has to offer. And you will be on the outside, once again, playing the victim. Dad usually does things like this for his own amusement, but this time, I can actually see a point. Now, we can not do it. We can try and delay this deal, create as much chaos as we want. Or we can decide to work together and do the damn job. And if you ask me, turning around two sinking companies is gonna be a hell of a lot easier than trying to outmaneuver victor newman.

I have type 2 diabetes,

[ Daniel sighing ]

Daniel: Listen, I gotta get to work. You sure you’re gonna be all right?

Phyllis: Oh, yeah. I’m gonna finish my coffee.

Daniel: I can wait.

Phyllis: Mm. Don’t worry about it. I’ll call you later.

[ Phyllis chuckling ]

Daniel: All right. Bye.

Phyllis: All right. Mwah.

Tucker: How was the family reunion?

Phyllis: What are you doing here?

[ Tucker chuckling ]

Tucker: I’m free to come here. I can see that you’re not very willing to express any gratitude outwardly to me and that’s fine. I’m not offended. But, since I am the reason that you are out and about, I need to know what your plan is. Our arrangement, phyllis. I need some reassurance that you’re actually going to follow through.

Phyllis: I told you I’d follow through.

Tucker: Yes, you did. But I can also imagine all the, uh, escape hatches you’re devising and my advice to you is don’T. Carson hasn’t given his testimony yet and I can sway it. It can either be an impassioned defense of you or I can make him disappear again, which would put you in prison for many years, would it not?

Phyllis: Yeah, you don’t have to remind me.

Tucker: Then, I’ll ask you again. What are you doing to make jack forgive you? What are you doing to get under diane’s skin? What’s your plan?

Chance: You know, I heard that when adam got back from vegas, you were the only one that could get through to him.

Sharon: We’ve had a complicated relationship. He feels I’m one of the only people he can trust.

Chance: And my point is, you and adam and nick, you make a really great team, but they need you more than you need them. Don’t you forget that.

[ Adam sighing ]

Adam: Son of a bitch.

Nick: I know that tone. Frustrated acceptance, but acceptance nonetheless.

Adam: Look, you’re right. We could waste time raging about the old man or we could just do this.

[ Adam chuckling ] Oh, you, me and sharon working together.

Nick: Yup.

[ Adam chuckling ]

[ Diane sighing ]

Diane: Summer.

Summer: Hey. I– I didn’t think it was appropriate to use my house key, so–

Diane: Oh. Never mind. Come on in. Given how late it is, I’m guessing this visit has something to do with your mother’s arrest.

Summer: You already know about that?

Diane: It’s hard to keep news like that a secret, especially when it involves phyllis.

Summer: Does kyle know? I wanted to tell him myself.

Diane: Um, he was here with me at the time. We found out together.

Summer: What did he say? How– how did he react?

[ Knocking on door ]

[ Kyle chuckling ]

Daniel: Hey.

Lily: Hi.

Daniel: Sorry. I, uh, know it’s late, but–

Lily: No. It’s– it’s fine. Are you okay? ‘Cause you look, uh…

Daniel: Like hell? Yeah, I know. Just– only slightly better than I’m feeling right now, too.

Lily: Is it your mom?

Daniel: Officially booked and spending the night in a genoa city jail cell. She turned herself in.

[ Daniel chuckling ] Stop the presses, right? Phyllis finally did the right thing.

Lily: Wow. [ Sighing ] Well, I mean, at least you know she’s safe.

Daniel: Yeah, I guess, for– for now. I–

Lily: Okay, so what’s wrong? Why are you upset?

Daniel: Just– something doesn’t feel right. Something seems off.

Lily: What do you mean?

Daniel: Mom turns herself in. Then this eyewitness quickly turns up ready to corroborate her story about self-defense and… I want to believe that it’s a coincidence, but…

Lily: Well, yeah. I mean, it’s phyllis. So, you always have to wonder what’s really going on.

Christine: I was surprised you took over for michael.

Heather: Daniel suggested it, when he learned michael had to leave town. Fortunately, I was in the states.

Christine: How’s lucy?

Heather: Well, she’s at camp for about another week or so and then, I imagine she’ll probably want to come see me here. Unless she wants to stay in portugal with, um…

Christine: With paul.

[ Christine sighing ] How is he?

Heather: He’s searching for something, I– maybe he’s just at that point in life. We should focus on the case.

Christine: Yeah. Yeah. Um, well… phyllis is full of surprises. Her arrest was no different. I mean, she doesn’t make a single move ever unless she can work it to her advantage.

Heather: You’re saying my client was not acting with complete sincerity when she turned herself in for arrest.

Christine: Look, she faked her own death. She was on the run for weeks. Then, she makes this very public showing of taking responsibility. So brave and stoic. I half expected her to take a bow.

Heather: Maybe she truly wants to take responsibility for her actions. She came back. She sr version of stark’s death was corroborated by an eyewitness.

Christine: Yeah, that same witness that claimed she died in the ambulance fire.

Heather: And yet, it all makes sense. Things happened the way phyllis says they did.

Christine: Why don’t you just, uh, save it for the trial. Maybe the judge will appreciate your attempt.

Heather: I’m serious, christine. There is no reason to drag this out when the truth is obvious. The charges should be dropped and phyllis should be released immediately.

[ Kyle chuckling ]

Audra: I was surprised to get your text.

Kyle: But not disappointed, I hope.

Audra: I’d assume you, uh, want to be well rested for your first day at newman tomorrow.

Kyle: No, I don’t need a lot of sleep.

Audra: Good. So happy you took the job.

Kyle: So am I.

Audra: I think we’re going to make a great team.

Kyle: Oh, I’m counting on it.

Audra: So this, tonight, this is?

Kyle: A celebration.

[ Audra moaning] My new job. Our new… collaboration.

Audra: Hm. I like that. Let’s celebrate.

Diane: Kyle was as shocked as I was when he heard about phyllis. And to find out from tucker of all people.

Summer: Wh– what does tucker have to do with it?

Diane: Well, apparently he was at the club when she got arrested and he wasted no time in sharing the news.

Summer: Doesn’t matter.

Diane: Well, it does to me. It means you can stop covering for your mother. And I can stop wondering what she’s going to do next to punish me.

Summer: My mom doesn’t feel that way. Not anymore.

Diane: Summer, I know you love her and you are ready for this whole thing to be over.

[ Diane sighing ] But the pain she caused can’t be erased in just one night. And any promises that she made to you during this time can’t be trusted.

Summer: No, seriously, diane. She realizes what this war between the two of you has done to me and kyle and she wants it to be over. That’s the truth, whether you believe it or not.

Diane: I hope she knows how deeply she’s hurt you and daniel.

Summer: Daniel and i are fine. I– I want to talk to kyle. Where is he?

Diane: I don’t know. He went out.

Summer: He went out? Now? Where did he go?

Diane: I’m not sure. He’s been really restless lately. Agitated. This whole separation has been really tough on him, as you can imagine. He’s trying to make sense of things but I don’t know, maybe– maybe things will change now that phyllis has been arrested. For both of you. That’s why you came here tonight, right? To find out where things stand between the two of you moving forward?

Summer: Yeah. Now that my mom is facing the authorities.

[ Diane sighing ]

Diane: Yeah, phyllis thought I got off too easy when I came back to genoa city and this whole drama was to put me in the jail cell that she thought I deserved. Well, now it’s her turn with the gcpd and I don’t know how the D.A. Is going to handle this, but now that your mother’s bee captured, I am going to get on with my own life regardless, and I hope you and kyle do the same, whether that’S… together or apart.

Summer: My mom wasn’t captured. She turned herself in.

Diane: What?

Christine: There is no way I’m dropping the charges against phyllis. Think of all she’s done since the night of the gala.

Heather: Right, but what about the emt’s statement? I mean, carson spelled it out. Phyllis was a victim of jeremy stark’s manipulation.

Christine: She was his partner in crime. Plus, his wife. Yeah, maybe she got more than she bargained for but phyllis is nobody’s victim, no matter what she says.

Heather: That man had no reason to come forward, but he did anyway. And when he got sucked in by stark, he feared for his life and his family’s life. He said that stark was dangerous and capable of anything. Yet, he did come forward.

Christine: After stark was dead.

Heather: Which proves my point, christine. He finally felt safe enough to come forward and tell the truth. And he’s willing to testify, under oath, and he says he witnessed stark attack phyllis and she had to defend herself which resulted in stark’s death, acting in self-defense.

Christine: How convenient that he had a front row seat. That is all just too convenient and way too rehearsed.

Heather: So, you think that carson just put on a performance in that interrogation room?

Christine: Hard to say, grieving for his fellow emt, who happens to be very much alive, by the way. But, you know, if we’re talking about performances, you didn’t get to see it, but phyllis’s swan song at the gala, I mean, it was award winning.

Heather: Christine, what did she gain by turning herself in?

Christine: I don’t know, but I’m pretty convinced that it had something to do with saving her own ass.

Heather: Did you not think that stark was capable of any of this?

Christine: You know, stark was a sociopathic con artist and a thug, but no one was holding a knife to phyllis’s throat when she pretended she was dead.

Heather: Maybe not literally, but carson pointed out that stark threatened phyllis’s family if she didn’t follow along with his plan.

Christine: Okay, enough.

Heather: You know, I’m just trying to point out what the judge–

Christine: Heather, please. Stop. Kayaking is my thing.

Lily: So, wait, this missing emt just showed up, out of the blue?

Daniel: Well, summer wanted to track him down on her own, but he just… showed up. You know, ready to come clean. Ready to back up mom’s story that stark was ribr erhing.

Lily: And you don’t believe him.

Daniel: I don’t know. That’s– that’s it. Like, I don’t know who or what to believe anymore. Maybe I’m just reading into things too much. Maybe it is just a happy coincidence.

Lily: Yeah, maybe it is.

Daniel: Hm. Maybe it– it’s– [ Sighing ] It’s just…

Lily: What?

Daniel: When mom learned that carson had been found you know, she acted surprised, but it seemed off, you know? It didn’t seem real. It was like she knew that it was going to happen and she had to make it look good. And don’t get me wrong, you know that I love my mother to death, but… we both know that she’s more than capable of stretching the truth in a million different ways. I know her. I know her well enough to recognize her tells and I definitely saw them tonight.

Lily: So, what, do you think that she’s lying? I mean, do you think that she turned herself in ’cause she knew this guy was coming forward?

Daniel: Maybe. Maybe not. I don’t know, I– let’s just say that she’s probably not telling us the whole story.

Lily: Daniel, I’m sorry. I know not knowing is hard. That you’re kind of in this place where, you know, if you believe in her, does that make you the loving son? Or does that make you a fool?

Diane: I’m sure that you and daniel are so relieved that your moer isn’t on the run anymore, hiding out god know where. But her lies will have lasting damage. You know that as well as anyone. We are– we are all her victims here.

Summer: Kyle doesn’t know that she voluntarily turned herself in though.

Diane: No, the– the first I heard of it was when you told me.

Summer: He needs to hear the whole story. I mean, do you know where he is? Does jack know?

Diane: Uh, no, jack is in new york on a business trip and I’m– I’m telling you the truth. I really have no idea where kyle went, unless…

Summer: Unless, what?

Diane: Maybe he went looking for you.

[ Kyle sighing ]

Kyle: That was amazing.

Audra: Absolutely.

Kyle: Unexpected. Well… maybe not so unexpected, but–

[ Both chuckling ] So, what now?

[ Audra sighing ]

Kyle: Got it. Well, the offer is available whenever you need it.

Audra: Hm. Um, how would your wife feel about you doing something like that? You know, sharing newman intel with an outsider?

Kyle: Oh, she would hate it for a couple of reasons. She would accuse me of taking advantage of my family connections.

Audra: Which you would be, of course.

Kyle: Yeah, well. She’s done worse, so…

[ Kyle clicks tongue ]

Audra: And, uh, how does she feel about you working with me? Uh, that bad, huh?

Kyle: Look, she doesn’t trust you. She told me I should watch my back.

Audra: Oh.

Kyle: Should I?

Audra: Well, as long as you don’t cross me, we’ll be fine. (Wheezing)

Heather: Why won’t you talk to me about this?

Christine: Because you keep trying to convince me of something that I know in my heart isn’t true. That phyllis is innocent.

Heather: I believe she is.

Christine: Of planning the scene at the gala? Of planting the evidence at the abbotts? Of killing a man and then going on the run and then playing some wild game of hide and go seek for weeks?

Heather: There were clearly extenuating circumstances around all of those actions.

Christine: Okay. How about this action? Your predecessor’s silence. How long did michael know where phyllis was?

Heather: How is that relevant?

Christine: Well, th’r I think he’d pretty much do anything for her.

Heather: Are you suggesting that michael is involved in some conspiracy to lie?

Christine: I think this is all way too convenient.

Heather: Okay, well, as far as I know, michael has not seen phyllis and he told me as much himself when he caught me up to speed.

Christine: As he conveniently flew off to singapore.

Heather: To help gloria. She’s in trouble.

Christine: When is she not.

Heather: I stepped in.

Christine: Mm-hmm. And contacted phyllis. How?

Heather: She reached out to michael, ready to turn herself in. I went to see her instead.

Christine: Wait a– she reached out to him?

Heather: That’s my understanding.

Christine: To come forward? Not having any idea that carson had been found? What– why would she surrender after successfully evading arrest?

Heather: I imagine she got tired of running and probably wanted to set the record straight.

Christine: Well, you know, it’s phyllis, so. She’s the queen of self-preservation. Mm-mm, without carson, she’d be facing a murder charge. That’s not how she operates.

Heather: You’re claiming that she knew carson was going to back her up?

Christine: Uh-huh.

[ Christine sighing ] The question is… how did she find out?

[ Summer sighing ]

Diane: Nothing from kyle?

Summer: No texts, no phone calls. He’s obviously not out looking for me.

Diane: I’m sorry.

Summer: Why? It must warm your heart to see me and kyle split up.

Diane: It doesn’t warm my heart to watch my son suffer.

Summer: Watching me suffer, though, that must be fun.

Diane: Believe it or not, I really want things to work out between you and kyle.

Summer: I don’t believe it.

Diane: Hm. You know, I had a long talk with him before he went out and I told him not to give up on his marriage so easily. Not to walk away because of any wrongs that he thought had been done to me.

Summer: What did he say?

Diane: Well, I mean, he’s so hurt and confused right now that he just wasn’t thinking clearly.

Summer: Which means that he thinks that it’s over.

Diane: No, it just means that he has trouble remembering where his heart lies, but he will, eventually. Summer, it’s– it’s too soon to give up hope.

Summer: Can I ask you a question, diane?

Diane: Sure.

Summer: Why do you care? Obviously, you’ve never been my biggest fan.

Diane: Because I look at you and I see the woman that my son loves. Simple as that. You make him happy. And if he’s happy, so am I.

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: I want him back. I don’t know how, I mean… so much has happened. So many awful things have been said, I–

Diane: Well, there’s always a way back. Trust me, I know.

Summer: What would you do?

Diane: Well, the old diane would lie, beg, manipulate, do whatever I could if something meant that much to me.

Summer: The old summer would do the exact same thing.

[ Diane chuckling ]

Audra: Aw, you waited to say goodbye.

Kyle: Was I supposed to slip out and do the walk of shame?

Audra: No shame here.

Kyle: I should go.

Audra: Yeah, I think that would be best.

Kyle: Why? What happened?

Audra: Oh, well… tucker saw your text message inviting me to come meet you.

Kyle: How did that happen?

Audra: Oh, well, you know tucker. He’s just a nosy son of a bitch who likes to be in everyone else’s business.

Kyle: Okay, audra, I don’t want him anywhere near mine.

Audra: Uh… it’s all good. I mean, I think he’s just going to say some funny, inappropriate remarks to try to get under your skin, but don’t let him. Look, relax, okay? It’s all good. I’ll see you tomorrow for your first day at newman media.

Kyle: Okay. [ Chuckling ] Hey, it’s me…your skin.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

What can you do

with sensitive skin?

Daniel: It’s been a really long day.

Lily: Yeah. You must be exhausted.

Daniel: Yeah, I am, but I can’t stop thinking about all the other trouble my mother might have gotten herself into.

Lily: Well, we can talk about something else.

Daniel: That’s a great idea. Let’s talk about something else. Let’s talk about you.

Lily: [ Gasping ] Me? My favorite.

[ Lily laughing ] Um… I got a new headboard for the guest room, but I’m not sure about the color.

Daniel: Okay. Um… well, you know, I’ve always heard that beige is a nice neutral tone.

Lily: Beige? Neutral or blah?

Daniel: Oh. Totally blah.

[ Lily chuckling ] How was your chat with nate?

Lily: Oh, it was fine.

Daniel: Fine? That sounds rather beige as well.

Lily: Well, I mean, you know, we really tried to get along, but then every time victoria’s name came up, it just went off the rails.

Daniel: Well, he’s a grown man. He’s not going to appreciate criticism about his personal life.

Lily: Yeah, but clearly victoria newman is wrong for him. I don’t understand why he can’t see that.

[ Daniel chuckling ] What?

Daniel: Come on, you know that that statement could’ve been applied to us quite a few times.

Lily: No, that is not true.

Daniel: Yes! The old days.

Lily: The old– the ve– you mean the very, very old days. No, but this is now and this is my cousin and yeah, I’m upset with him, but I still worry about him.

Daniel: Do you have a reason to?

Lily: Yes. I know how the newmans are. They will use you until they don’t need you anymore and then they’ll spit you out. And victor sets the tone and victoria is his mini-me. And I just, you know, I’ve seen too many people get hurt by that family.

Nate: Hello, kyle.

Kyle: Nate.

Nate: If this is a bad time–

Kyle: No. I was just leaving.

Nate: Guess I’ll be seeing you tomorrow at newman tower. Welcome aboard.

Kyle: Thanks. Looking forward to it.

[ Nate clears throat ]

Audra: Don’t say one word.

Nate: Wasn’t planning to.

Audra: Good.

Nate: None of my business, unless it starts interfering in our business.

Audra: It won’T. So, I’m assuming since you came in person, um… you have big news.

Nate: And it’s a game changer.

Audra: Do tell.

Nate: Well, I was copied on a newman family text, summoning us all to the family ranch tonight.

Audra: From victor?

Nate: Mm-hmm. And he was in rare form.

Audra: What do you mean?

Nate: Marking his territory. Reading everyone the riot act. Even going so far as to suggest I couldn’t be trusted.

Audra: Well, that doesn’t sound good at all.

Nate: You know what? I’m kinda hungry.

Audra: Excuse me?

Nate: Yeah, I haven’t eaten all day. Why don’t we go out and grab a bite to eat?

Audra: Are you serious? You’re just going to leave me hanging like that? Do you want me to die of suspense?

Nate: This story needs a nice meal and a good bottle of wine to accompany it.

Audra: This better be good.

Nate: Trust me, audra. You’re going to love this ending.

Summer: I’ll admit, the thought has crossed my mind to try to trick kyle into coming back.

Diane: Then maybe we have more in common than we thought.

Summer: I’m not going to do it. I’m not– I mean, he would find out and I have already tricked kyle into marrying me once.

Diane: You did?

Summer: Wait, has he not told you about lola rosales?

Diane: Well, he– he mentioned her.

Summer: Kyle was with her and I wanted him. And then lola got really sick and she needed a liver transplant, so I offered to be the donor.

Diane: If he left her to marry you.

Summer: I take it he left that part of the story out.

Diane: Yes, he did. But– but you did stay together and you fell in love. So, that wasn’t trickery, that’s real.

Summer: Yeah, but… look at us now.

Diane: Yeah, but you’re different now. You’ve grown up. You can repair this, summer. You’ve learned some of the hard truths that I wish I would’ve learned at your age.

Summer: Uh… I got– I– I better go.

Diane: Well, you don’t have to. Um, you can stay here and wait for kyle. You could go check in on harrison.

Summer: No, I don’t want to wake him.

Kyle: What’s she doing here? Somedays, I cover up because of my moderate

Audra: Okay. I think you’ve had enough pretzels. Um, that should hold you over until the meal. Now, tell me, what went down at that meeting?

Nate: Well, for one thing, victor’s back. No more taking a ceremonial, advisory position at newman. He has taken control over the company.

Audra: Huh. The lion roars again.

Nate: Not only that, he’s re-arranging the whole corporate structure. He wants nick working with adam and sharon rosales.

Audra: Uh, sharon, noah’s mom who owns crimson lights? Wait, how does she fit into all of this?

Nate: She inherited a business and proposed a merger with mccall and victor signed off on it.

Audra: So, sharon who owns a coffee house is now running tucker’s corporation. We suddenly have so much in common.

Nate: Slow down. Sharon has had some high-profile gigs, plus she knows all the players in town. I would not underestimate her.

Audra: Point taken. But, doing the corporate math, if nick is off working his little side project with adam and sharon, um, where does that leave newman media and newman enterprises? I mean, victor’s not planning on running it all, is he?

Nate: He wants me to stay at newman enterprises with victoria and nikki. Which means, by process of elimination… newman media is all yours. Working alongside your new coo, kyle abbott.

Diane: Summer came over to tell us about phyllis’s arrest.

Kyle: Yeah, we already heard.

Diane: Apparently, there’s more to the story.

Summer: My mom surrendered to the police. She voluntarily turned herself in because she realized what she did was wrong.

Kyle: Hm. Took her long enough. But I am sure you are relieved. I guess it’s in the law’s hands now.

Summer: Kyle, can we please talk? Alone?

Diane: You know what, I was– uh… I was just making my way upstairs.

Kyle: No, mom, you don’t have to do that. I was just going to grab something to eat and then head up to bed.

Summer: Please, just… a few minutes? Wait, you… you smell like perfume. Have you been with somebody?

Kyle: Goodnight, summer.

[ Summer sighing ]

[ Door slamming ]

Heather: Phyllis did not know about carson’s return when she decided to turn herself in.

Christine: You know that for a fact?

Heather: I gave her the news. It– isn’t it possible that she realized it was finally time to stop running and she wanted to go home and be with her son and daughter again?

Christine: Of course, it’s possible. And then I remember it’s phyllis and it just seems too convenient and too noble. I mean, come on, right? The eyewitness magically reappears the same day phyllis turns herself in? Even you know that stinks to high heaven.

Heather: What I know is that you are historically unable to give phyllis the benefit of the doubt.

[ Christine sighing ]

Christine: After years of painful experience. That doesn’t make me wrong.

Heather: I saw how scared phyllis was when she told me her story at the station after she was booked. I believe that she killed stark in self-defense.

Christine: Maybe it was self-defense, but what about all the other charges, up to and including her faking her own death so diane would spend the rest of her life in jail?

Heather: Look, we’re not going to resolve this tonight. All I’m asking is that you keep an open mind. Don’t let your hatred for phyllis keep you from doing the right thing.

[ Christine sighing ] My a1c was up here; now, it’s down with rybelsus.

Daniel: Thank you.

Lily: For what?

Daniel: For being here. You know, for listening to me. For distracting me with paint colors and fabric swatches.

Lily: You’re welcome.

Daniel: I should probably go. I got to get up early for my mom’s arraignment.

Lily: Yeah, I get it. Well, listen. I want to say thank you, too. You really helped make this move special for me and I couldn’t have done it without you.

[ Daniel chuckling ] What is it?

Daniel: Just an update on the arraignment.

Lily: Well, doesn’t seem like good news.

Daniel: You know, as much as I want to believe that the worst is over, that mom finally learned her lesson and then we can all just move on and start living some semi-normal lives, it’s like, every time one storm ends, another one just blows through that’s even bigger and worse than the one before.

[ Kyle sighing ]

Kyle: What?

Diane: Is there something you want to talk about?

Kyle: Nope. I’ve got to get some sleep. Got a busy day at my new job tomorrow.

Diane: New job? Where?

Kyle: Uh, newman media.

Diane: When did this happen?

Kyle: It’s been in the works but we… sealed the deal tonight.

Diane: What? I hope this isn’t some ploy of victor’s to go after jack again.

Kyle: No, victor had nothing to do with this. I was hired by audra charles.

Diane: Uh, isn’t it a bit soon to be making some major life decisions?

Kyle: Not really, when you think about it. After my father unceremoniously kicked me to curb, I suddenly found myself in high demand, so… I took the opportunity.

Diane: He didn’t kick you to the curb. He offered you a position at the company.

Kyle: Yeah, one far below the one I already had. A job I was doing pretty damn well if you ask me, so. His loss.

[ Diane sighing ]

Diane: I hate this.

Kyle: Hate what?

Diane: This! You apart from your wife, at odds with your father all because of a situation that should’ve never happened in the first place.

Kyle: It’s for the best, mom. I can finally make my mark without being known as jack abbott’s son.

[ Diane sighing ] I know. It’s time. The opportunity was there and I took it.

Diane: But don’t you see that you’re being impulsive? And you’re just acting out out of hurt and anger–

Kyle: Mom! I know what I’m doing, so just relax. I got this.

Diane: You know, I– I– I don’t want to argue anymore. I’M… I’m just going to go to bed.

Kyle: Okay. Goodnight.

Diane: Goodnight.

[ Diane sighing ]

Audra: Here’s to…

Nate: The future.

Audra: A very bright future. Look, I knew victor was upset about adam going after newman media, but I never expected a power play like this.

Nate: That’s why the man’s a legend, a chess grandmaster from way back.

Audra: Look, I’m just grateful that he decided to keep our chess pieces in place. I was wondering for a while.

Nate: Victor’s on our side, no question. And after a little time passes, victoria’s plans to fold tucker’s old company into newman without adam.

Audra: I like the sound of that.

Nate: Shall we make another toast?

Audra: Sure, let’s do it. To winning.

Nate: Ooh.

[ Glasses clinking ]

Audra: Ah…

[ Nate chuckling ]

Audra: Oh. Hello, summer.

Summer: Audra.

Nikki: What’s wrong, darling? Or do I already know?

Victor: Thinking about our family. How fractured it all is. Maybe, this is the beginning of a downward slope. I certainly have tried everything in my power to bring our family together again. Nothing seems to work.

[ Adam sighing ]

Adam: Hey. I’ll get a single malt. Neat. Thank you.

Nick: Would you leave sharon the hell alone? Stop trying to find new ways to drag her down.

Victoria: Lucky me you had some free time.

Nate: Lucky me that you were thirsty.

[ Both laughing ]

Victoria: Well, lucky me that you realized that the bar was boring and you suggested that we bring our drinks up here.

Nate: It’s not that it was boring, it’s just I couldn’t do what I wanted to do to you in public, with all those annoying people around. At least, not without getting arrested.

Victoria: Well, lucky you, I would have bailed you out. Then, brought you up here.

[ Nate sighing ]

Nate: You know, I’d like to think that this, whatever we’re calling it, is– is more than just spontaneous sex in a corporate hotel suite.

Victoria: It is much more to me.

Nate: Good. I’m glad to hear it.

Victoria: I’ve actually been trying to think about the best way to bring that up to you.

Nate: Ooh, the dreaded talk.

Victoria: Mm-mm, I dread nothing.

Nate: One of the things I admire most about you.

Victoria: Seriously though… what do you want from this relationship, nate? Experience the feel of a dentist’s clean at home.

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Nikki: Now, victor newman, you listen to me. I have never known you to be a defeatist and I’m not going to let you go there now. What has happened to make you feel this this way?

Victor: You know, victoria has become totally unpredictable. I don’t like it.

Nikki: Yeah, I know what you mean.

Victor: When I asked her to take over mccall and have adam run it, she refused, against my wishes, and now, she has pushed her brother, nicholas, out of the company. No warning, nothing.

Nikki: I’m none too pleased about it either.

Victor: I just asked nicholas to join his brother and rebuild mccall into a viable company.

Nikki: Do you think nicholas will agree to do it?

Victor: As long has he moans and groans about the destructive ways of his brother, he might as well join him and prevent him from making further mistakes.

Nikki: Well, maybe, in a perfect world.

Victor: No, sweetheart, in this world, you know? And then, there’s adam. My problem child, adam. He feels totally isolated now that he has lost the baby. You know, it makes me so damn sad. No matter how many times I’ve tried to make him a part of our family, he doesn’t feel like it at all. He feels like an outsider. In many ways, I feel I’ve failed. What I now know… is that I’ve given my children too much reign.

Nikki: I’m not sure I like where this is going.

Adam: Look, I’m not dragging sharon into anything. It was her idea that we merge companies now that she’s the surprising owner of a new one.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Well, undo it now.

Anything. Tell her you changed your mind.

Adam: Have you tried, nick? I mean really, sincerely tried. Or is it always about fate stepping in and guiding your hand?

Nick: [ Scoffs ] Fate?

Adam: Faith, for example. That is the closest that you and I have ever come to an actual accord. I mean, I had to risk my freedom, I had to save your daughter’s life and give up a bodily organ for you to be civil to me! And that barely lasted a year. So, who knows? Yeah, maybe, it all is just a wasted, uh, energy. Some pointless exercise trying to appease our father.

Nick: You really believe that?

Adam: Well, just because we’re family, doesn’t mean we have to be nice to each other. So maybe, you’re right, maybe, we’re better off not trying.

Chance: Don’t go in any trouble now.

Sharon: No, no. It’s no trouble.

Chance: Oh, come on, you’ve got the espresso machine off already, it’s fine, don’t worry.

Sharon: Listen, you. I’m gonna give you a black eye whether you like it or not.

[ Laughs ] You know what? Think about it. How many cops can I say that to and get away with it?

Chance: Not too many.

Sharon: Or would you prefer three shots of dead eye?

Chance: Ooh, boy. Yeah, do your worst.

Sharon: Oh, my gosh. You are going to be sorry.

[ Chance laughing ]

Chance: I usually am.

Sharon: So, tell me, how did phyllis seem after being on the run for so many months?

[ Chance sighing ]

Chance: I would say resigned. You know, not defeated. Overall, contrite.

Sharon: I’m sure that michael told her to act that way. And keep her mouth shut.

Chance: Yeah, yeah, if so, she took his advice.

Sharon: Well, phyllis is way too smart not to. Or at least, she thinks she is.

Chance: It was a usual perp walk. You know, fingerprints, photos, arraignment, hearing set. The whole nine yards.

Sharon: Well, tell me, on a scale of one to ten, how much trouble is she in?

Chance: Thirteen and a half, and that’s without the murder charges, which show no signs of going away.

Sharon: I wonder why she decided to turn herself in now?

Chance: Like I said.

Sharon: Right. Kept her mouth shut, for once. Maybe, she was just tired of hiding.

Chance: I got no idea. I guess, we’ll find out soon enough. There was one interesting thing, though.

Sharon: Oh, yeah? What’s that?

Chance: Yeah, baldwin implied they have some special stay-out-of-jail card. I don’t know.

Sharon: Hm, that had to get your radar up.

Chance: Oh, yeah.

Sharon: Well… here you go.

Chance: Thank you.

Sharon: Cheers.

Chance: Cheers. Mm. Nice.

Sharon: So, um, do you want to sit? Or are you still too wound up?

Chance: No, we can sit. Come on. I got time. We could, uh–

Sharon: Oh, I should clean all this up.

Chance: No, this is good. Cameron kirsten is the name on every page. What is this? Is it business stuff? What are you doing with it?

Sharon: I own it now.

Chance: What?

Sharon: Cameron left his company to me and his estate. You’re looking at the new owner of kirsten incorporated.

Nate: I want it all.

Victoria: Do tell.

Nate: I want to work alongside you every day. Become a permanent denizen of the c-suite. Because you and i are an unstoppable force that can take newman enterprises to even greater heights. Crushing the competition, dreaming big and making it happen. Then, going back to our place. A couple that thrives off the energy of working together and then brings it into their personal lives. No– no conflict. No hesitations. No problem we can’t overcome together. And… the sex is always great.

Victoria: You have thought this out.

Nate: Actually, I haven’T. I’m building a vision of the future for you to respond to, in this moment. But it’s sincere.

Victoria: I can see that.

Nate: Looking at you… those beautiful eyes… my path forward is crystal clear. And I have no shame about any of it. The ambition. The desire, the success.

Victoria: Well, like you said, you want it all.

Nate: Tell me you don’T. And then, give me one good reason why we couldn’t and shouldn’t have it. Hey, dad. I got an a on my book report.

Nikki: You have shown remarkable restraint in letting your children guide their own lives. Yes, nicholas is going through a difficult time, but being back at newman reinvigorated him. And victoria, I mean, she’s really come into her own.

Victor: Yeah, well, true, but at what cost? She tossed her own brother aside. And you know why. To allow her lover, nate, to come in through the back door. I don’t trust that guy. Not after what I have seen him do to his own family. And then, there’s adam. I gave him the keys to a new camelot and what does he do? He uses that power to come after newman media. Maybe, you’re right. Maybe, all the restraint has unleashed all of that nonsense.

Nikki: So, where is all of this going?

Victor: I have been too damn easy going with everyone. I’m going to put an end to it.

Nick: This is ironic. We finally agree on something and it’s about us giving up on each other.

Adam: Hmm, well, hey, there’s no rule saying we have to get along just ’cause we are biological brothers. So, it’s best if we just stay out of each other’s way.

Nick: Well, that’s easier said than done, adam, because our father has other plans where we are concerned. He is still really pushing me to go work with you at mccall.

[ Adam scoffing ]

Adam: He’s still on that? I thought I shut him down about that weeks ago.

Nick: Oh, no. He is determined to make that happen. Especially, now that I’ve been given this awesome leave of absence from newman.

Adam: Oh, by victoria paving the way for her new boy toy, that doesn’t surprise me at all.

[ Nick laughing ]

Nick: You knew about that?

Adam: So, how does it feel being cast out of the garden? You know, the first time is always the worst, but you’ll adjust.

Nick: Thanks for the tip.

Adam: Personally, I’m starting to like it here better. There’s way fewer snakes.

Nick: And to think, I was actually considering teaming up with you. I mean, I would much rather be the one to keep an eye on you than sally or sharon.

Adam: Listen to me, sally has nothing to do with this. I offered her a job and she shut me down. And sharon came to me with a business proposition. The last thing I need is big brother watching me and reporting back to victor. So, if you think that’s what the endgame should be here–

Nick: No worries, man. All right, you helped me talk myself out of it.

[ Phone chiming ]

Adam: What the hell is this about?

Nick: There’s only one way to find out.

Nate: Uh, victoria.

Victoria: Yeah, I know, I– I just got the same text message. Dad’s summoning us all to the ranch.

[ Sighing ] I’m calling him. Hi. Uh, is everything okay? You– you’re fine? Mom’s fine?

Victor: Everything is fine. There’s been no accident, okay? I just want you all to come out to the ranch.

Victoria: And nate?

Victor: Bring nate along.

[ Victoria sighing ]

Victoria: I really don’t like this. There’s been no medical emergency, and yet, he’s calling the family and you together.

Nate: It’s about newman.

Victoria: Most likely. And I have a feeling that it’s not gonna be good.

Trelegy for copd.

Nick: Mom? Dad?

Nikki: We’re in here, honey.

Nick: Hey.

Victor: Son, thank you for coming.

Nick: Yeah. Before anything, are you guys okay?

Nikki: We are both just fine.

Nick: Okay, good, that’s all I could think about on the way over here.

Nikki: Oh, I’m sorry. I asked your father to make sure that it was clear in the text, but…

Nick: What’s going on? Why’d you call us?

Victor: I’ll let you know once everyone’s here.

Adam: I assume this is another step in your futile plan to force me to hire nick at adustus international.

Nick: That’s what you’re calling mccall now?

Adam: Mm-hmm. You like it?

Nick: No. Not really.

Nikki: Adustus? What does that even mean?

Victor: Singed and burnt.

Adam: I prefer scorched. As in “scorched earth.” Which is how I plan to proceed now that I’ve seen your latest attempt to manipulate me and control my future.

Victor: That’ll all stop tonight.

Tucker: Hey. Oh, no. You look like you world’s about to come to an end. What’s the matter?

Audra: Nothing I can’t handle.

Tucker: Ah, so, there is something.

Audra: Why are you in such a good mood?

Tucker: Mm, audra, stars are aligning for me in ways that I didn’t think was possible six weeks ago. My life is finally coming together, at long last. In fact, I would like to buy you a drink to celebrate. May I?

Chance: Kirsten left you his company?

Sharon: I know. I couldn’t believe it either.

Chance: This is the last thing I expected you to say.

Sharon: Well, think about how I felt. I had no inkling this was coming. It was a total shock.

Chance: Yeah. I can imagine.

Sharon: When cameron’s law firm sent me the notification letter, I was really weirded out. I thought, “why me?” I know that the man was obsessed with me, but–

Chance: That’s next level.

Sharon: Yeah, and then I realized, “why not me?” The last I knew, cameron didn’t have any family to speak of. And then, it occurred to me, maybe this is the one positive legacy that mad man will leave behind.

Chance: What you gonna do? Are you going to sell it and donate the money or what?

Sharon: Unfortunately, cameron left his company in shambles, so I doubt there would be very many buyers. I mean, the books are a mess. Several of the entities are near bankruptcy. And, you know, the balance sheets are–

Chance: I get it. [ Laughs ]

Sharon: So, suffice it to say, I will not be selling.

Chance: But you do have a plan though, clearly.

Sharon: Yes, I do. I am going to run this company and turn it into something new. Revitalized.

Chance: Wow. Wow, sharon, that– that’s amazing.

Sharon: And I have to say, it’s doing the same for me. I haven’t felt this energized in– I don’t know when.

Chance: I can tell. I really can.

Sharon: At first, I was repulsed. After all the horrible things that man did to faith and me, the whole thing seemed like the equivalent of blood money. But then, I don’t know, when I looked into it, I saw that these core businesses are sound. I mean, they may be understaffed and– and somewhat of a shambles, but they’re still generate a revenue.

Chance: You, uh– you saw the possibilities, yeah?

Sharon: I saw an opportunity, chance. To turn evil into something good. And even with cameron’s craziness hanging over this… him leaving me this business has given me a new direction. It’s given me new purpose and I just can’t wait to see where this takes me.

[ Chance chuckling ]

Chance: Look at you, sharon. This is– this is amazing how this has you right now and it– it makes me really happy.

Sharon: Well, you might not like this next part. I approached adam about merging this company with mccall unlimited. When I did my research, I found that his streaming entities rely on the proprietary software that kirsten incorporated produces.

Chance: Well, that sounds pretty reasonable.

Sharon: Except for the adam part.

[ Both chuckling ]

Chance: Look, I– I know some of the history just seems like it never really ended well for you.

Sharon: Well, you don’t have to give up on someone entirely, right? I mean, especially when there’s this happy coincidence, and especially when there’s such potential for mutual success for both of these companies. And the key word there is mutual because I’m doing this just as much for me as for adam, if not more so. I mean, I don’t know if a merger is going to happen, but I’m very optimistic.

Chance: Well, sharon, who am I to rain on all that joy? In fact, it’s pretty infectious. I just– I love seeing you this way. Somedays, I cover up because of my moderate

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue. What can you do with sensitive skin?

Sharon: Wait. Wait a minute.

[ Keys jangling ]

[ Lock clicks closed ] Hold on.

[ Both panting ] Let’s go back to my office.

Chance: Good idea.

Audra: I’m surprised you’re even talking to me.

Tucker: Why would that be, for heaven’s sake?

Audra: Well, tucker, we haven’t been on the best of terms.

Tucker: Oh. I forgive you. Now, what’s your poison?

Audra: Uh, something red.

Tucker: Hm. Evan, how about a glass of that not so bad cabernet I had the other day for lunch. Actually, you know what? Italian. Borgo. Your best borgo. And I will have un altro. Grazie.

Audra: Italian’s a new flavor for you.

Tucker: Well, I’m a man of the world, which is my oyster. Or whatever mollusk you want.

[ Snorts ] I love that word. Mollusk. You can’t say it without clipping the k at the end. Try it.

Audra: No, I’m good thank you.

Tucker: Oh. Mollusk. It’s fantastic. What were we talking about?

Audra: Oh, yeah, you were, um, about to satisfy my curiosity about, you know, whatever’s going so incredibly right for you.

Tucker: We were talking about tucker mccall. Well, I’ll tell you this. I am on the verge of everything.

Audra: An all-encompassing list.

Tucker: That’s right. You want to know what the key?

Audra: Oh, I’m dying to hear.

Tucker: You got to throw away the past, audra. That’s right. You gotta get rid of all that bad karma. Mccall unlimited. [ Scoffs ] Let adam sink into the mire with that thing. And I’m free, baby. I am– I’m focused and passionate. Ah. Grazie. The world with all its enthralling possibilities is now mine.

Victor: I have come to the disappointing conclusion that I gave all of you too much power, too much freedom, too much reign to do as you saw fit with whatever company I gave you, okay? I gave you the chance to run mccall. Turned it down. For what reason, I don’t quite understand.

Adam: What’s so hard to understand?

Victor: I am talking. Then, you pushed your brother out of the company. We all know why. To bring in nate. Be part of the inner circle. I don’t blame you for seeing promise in nate. I do too. But I don’t trust you, after what I’ve seen you do to your own family. Now, after you refused to run mccall, I bought the damn company, I gave it to you. What did you do? You used it as a bulldozer to come after newman media! I’ve had enough! What does that mean? It means that from now on, I call the shots. I lay down the law. You do as I want you to do.

Audra: You’re, uh, glowing and talking in generalities. Haven’t told me anything specific. So, to be honest, you sound drunk and you’re rambling.

[ Tucker laughing ]

Tucker: Oh, dear audra.

Audra: Am I wrong?

Tucker: No, you’re not wrong. I am rambling. As for drunk, I am a bit giddy. Just because I’m so freaking happy. I don’t think it has anything to do with the whisky.

Audra: Look, I don’t know what that has to do with anything. You know, you keep avoiding the particulars. Is it a secret? The catalyst for all this joy?

Tucker: Hm.

Audra: Or are you just making the whole thing up?

Tucker: Hm, I would be more than happy to enlighten you as to the particulars of the catalysts of my joy, but not at this time, you see, because I’m a bit afraid of jinxing it. And, all due respect, whether you believe or don’t believe what I say is true, won’t mean a thing to me.

Audra: Hm. Well, this is a new tucker. You know, in the past, when I’ve accused you of lying, you’d just get all cagey and defensive. Could it really be that tucker mccall is evolving? But I’m happy for you because my future is looking very promising as well.

Tucker: Is it?

Audra: Mm-hmm.

Tucker: Do tell.

Audra: Hey.

Tucker: Kyle abbott?

Audra: Oh, my god.

Tucker: That’s what you consider a promising future?

Audra: Mm-hmm.

[ Both panting ]

Victor: Starting tomorrow, nicholas, you will help adam run adustus. Make it a strong, viable company. Whatever’s good for the company you keep, the rest out. Nate, you will continue as coo under victoria. Once adustus has become a strong, viable company, we’ll make it a subsidiary of newman enterprises as it should have been long ago.

Adam: Listen to me, we– wh– I thought we had an agreement.

Victor: I don’t give a damn about past agreements. This is how it will work. You don’t like the new arrangement, walk out the door. I want an answer now.

Nick: Sure. Fine.

Victoria: Well, you haven’t really left me much of a choice.

Victor: How about you, son?

[ Adam scoffing ] Kayaking is my thing.

Audra: Do you have something against kyle?

Tucker: Nah, of course not. Nah, he’s just another spoiled rich kid who lucked his way into a high-ranking position through no merit of his own. He certainly likes to pretend he cares about it all. He’s very handsome. So, if you want to have a good time with him, go for it. I just wouldn’t expect too much to sink your teeth into.

Audra: Well, I disagree. I see real potential in the man. And so much so that I hired him to be my right hand man–

Tucker: Get out.

Audra: At newman media. Yes I did.

Tucker: Was that before or after you had a little, uh, roll in the hay with him?

[ Both laughing ]

Audra: I’m not playing this little game with you, tucker. I’m very pleased with my decision and where things are going for me all around.

Tucker: I’ll bet you a trip with me to vegas that he’s going to let you down.

Audra: Well, I’m not going to take that bet.

Tucker: Yeah, it’s ’cause you know you’re gonna lose. And you’re going with me to vegas.

Audra: No. Because I don’t want to mess up your little apparent, uh, winning streak you’re on. All right.

Tucker: All right.

Audra: Good night. Thanks for the drink.

Tucker: Got get ’em, tiger.

[ Audra sighing ]

[ Victoria chuckling ]

Nate: This is exactly how you hoped it would all play out.

Victoria: We have mccall unlimited with little to no bloodshed, I might add. Adam is humiliated and he’s either subservient to us or he’s gone. I could’ve done with a little less scolding, but if that’s all it took…

Nate: Easy-peasy.

Chance: Mm. You know, when I came by earlier…

[ Chance chuckling ]

Sharon: You didn’t expect the evening to end this way?

Chance: Mm-mm. Any regrets?

Sharon: No.

[ Knocking on door ]

Chance: No one’s here, man. We’re closed.

[ Knocking on door ]

[ Chance sighing ]

Sharon: Hmm. Sounds a little more urgent than someone wanting coffee.

[ Knocking on door ]

Chance: Jeez.

Sharon: Oh, look. Two calls from adam.

[ Knocking on door ]

Nick: I haven’t seen you this fired up in a long time, dad.

Victor: Well, my boy, thank you for falling in line with what had to be done.

Nikki: Unlike adam.

Victor: I gave adam a choice. He made it. So be it. We move forward.

Nick: You pushed him into a corner. He reacted.

Nikki: He may change his mind.

Nick: Oh, I fully expect him to. If adam goes along with this, he’s going to be more volatile and unpredictable than ever.

Victor: I promise you one thing. If he doesn’t get in line… I’m done with him.

[ Knocking on door ]

Adam: I saw– I– I saw your car in the lot, that’s why I knew you were still here.

Sharon: Adam, is everything okay? What’s going on?

Adam: Victor pulled a fast one. I’m walking away from adustus. So, your proposed merger is now moot. But I’m happy to come in with you though. We can turn kirsten’s company around together. I want nothing more to do with my family… or my father.
