Adam: Hey. How are you? Is everything okay?

Chelsea: Everything’s going great here. I’m just calling to check in on connor.

Adam: Um, he’s fine, chelsea.

Chelsea: Well, christmas is only a few weeks away, so i thought we should discuss the gifts we’re giving him.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Adam: Um…actually, uh, now’s not a good time. Something just came up, and i have to deal with it. So I’ll talk to you later, okay?

Sally: Doesn’t sound like good news.

Nikki: Well, the offer you and ashland made to buy chanccomm? We just got our answer.

Victoria: And?

Lily: Well, it’s official. Jill’s made her decision about chanccomm.

Victor: Oh, my goodness.

Ashley: Hi.

Victor: Goodness, so nice to see you. I’m so happy you’re back. So you and jack were able to track our daughter down?

Ashley: Yes.

Victor: Really?

Ashley: Yes.

Victor: Is she home safe now?

Ashley: But I’ve got so much more things to tell you. I — it’s so incredible. I wasn’t able to tell you on the phone from spain because it’s a security risk.

Victor: Well, what is it?

Ashley: I can’t believe this, but abby was right. She was right to trust her instincts. Chance is alive, and she brought him home.

Victor: No. Are you serious? Oh, my goodness.

Chance: Wow. I feel like a complete stranger coming back here. It’s just been so long, I — I feel so disconnected from this place.

Abby: This is your life. Here, with me, with our baby. Everything that happened in spain, all of the bravery, all of the danger that you escaped, that was your job. This is your home, where you belong. It’s time to leave that nightmare behind you.

Jack: Abby!

Abby: Jill.

Jill: Abby?

[ Gasps ] Oh, my god, chance.

Abby: It’s him, it’s really him.

Jill: Oh, my god.

Abby: [ Laughs ]

Chance: Mm.

Chance: [ Laughs ]

Devon: I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that abby actually went and found chance alive.

Amanda: I know. Wow. They must really be looking forward to starting their life together as a family.

Devon: Yeah. I’m sure they are. I’m sure they are. I have to get dominic’s things together.

Amanda: Yeah.

Devon: [ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ] Don’t want to forget his favorite toy. He loves this thing.

[ Dominic fussing ] Ohh. What’s wrong? What’s the matter? What’s the matter? It’s okay. Here, here. Oh, there you go. Oh, here we go. There we go. You’re okay.

Devon: What do you mean?

Amanda: Well, the short period of time that dominic’s been here, you’ve grown so attached to him. I think it’s gonna be difficult for you to send him home. Nope

Jill: Oh, my god, chance. Oh, my god, I can’t believe it. You’re really here.

Abby: He really is. I found him.

Jill: Well, what happened?

Chance: Yeah, I mean, long story short, I was just getting back to the safe house when they attacked us. I figured my best shot at escaping was to make everyone believe that I was dead, so i took off my ring, I took off my watch, and I left them behind, and — and then I fled.

Abby: But I knew in my heart that he wasn’t gone. He had told me a story about some medics that he worked with in iraq — kim and errol. They were field medics who saved so many lives.

Chance: Yeah, and now they’re living in majorca, and they agreed to help hide me out.

Abby: [ Sighs ] So I found some letters that chance had gotten from them, and on a hunch, I called kim, and she told me that chance was alive and with her.

Jill: Oh, my god. This is so incredible. It makes me believe in miracles. Thank you. Abby, thank you for finding my grandson and bringing him home.

Abby: Everyone just wanted me to accept that he was gone, but I couldn’T. I just couldn’T.

Jill: Thank god you didn’T. Oh, honey, your determination and your bravery, and I know it’s not easy to listen to your heart when everybody’s telling you something different. And you!

Abby: [ Laughs ]

Jill: God! How could you do this to us? How could you not let us know you were alive?

Chance: It’s so good to see you, too, grandma.

Jill: Oh, my god, oh, my god. Oh, thank god. Oh. [ Laughs ]

Chance: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: Well, this looks like a clear response to our unofficial offer to buy chanccomm.

Nikki: Seems like jill wants to turn it into a bidding war.

Victoria: I’m not surprised. I mean, it is her media division to do with as she pleases, and we know she can’t be too pleased with the precarious situation that billy has put it in. I have to say, I’m a little disappointed that lily and billy weren’t able to convince her to sell chanccomm to us.

Nikki: Well, it’s not that different from the way ashland handled the sale of cyaxares.

Victoria: Yes, but he did it with a lot more game play. I mean, he actually cared who ended up with his company. He strategically ferreted out the best possible candidates. On the other hand, jill seems to want to wash her hands of the whole matter.

Nikki: Well, I can’t blame her for that, given the circumstances.

Victoria: You know, there’s nothing in the announcement that protects lily’s connection the division, so that means the sale has left her out in the cold alongside billy.

Nikki: Hmm. Well, maybe it’s an oversight. Or maybe it’s a negotiating point that jill wants to hold back for now.

Victoria: Or maybe jill blames both of them equally for the hit that chanccomm has taken.

Billy: I’m not gonna enjoy admitting this, but my mother putting chanccomm up to the highest bidder is actually a very smart move. I’m sure all the interested parties are sharpening their knives right now. Which means could be fun.

Lily: You know you don’t have to pretend like you’re okay with this. I mean, we put our heart and soul into that company.

Billy: Yes, we did, and now it’s done, and you’re moving on to bigger opportunities. By the way, have you told my mother you’re gonna accept the job as chancellor’s new ceo? Hey, you are gonna accept the job, aren’t you? Okay, good. So you need to tell her as soon as possible, so they can tell the world that you’re moving on to bigger and better things, that the mess at chancellor was not your responsibility. I do not want that interfering with your reputation in any way.

Lily: I’m not thinking about my reputation right now. I’m really proud of what we built at chanccomm, you know? I know we argued a lot because we have different styles, but that’s what made us so good together.

Billy: We had a good run.

Lily: Yes, which is why come to chancellor with me. Come on, be my chief operating officer.

Billy: I already turned that job down when my mother offered it to me.

Lily: I know, but I’m offering it to you.

Billy: I can’t do it.

Lily: Okay, why not? Why?

Billy: Because you don’t need me, and you certainly don’t need my baggage following you around and complicating your new position.

Lily: If I’m not thinking about that, you shouldn’t either. Unless what, do you not want to be my subordinate?

Billy: No, that’s not it at all. Granted, nobody really likes to take a demotion, but I’ve got no problem acknowledging that you are my superior.

Lily: Then why won’t you take the job?

Billy: [ Sighs ] I’ve got two areas of expertise — media and cosmetics. And once chanccomm is sold, neither one of those are under chancellor’s umbrella.

Lily: Okay, who cares? You’re a very fast learner.

Billy: On top of that, my mother already admitted that the only reason she offered me this job was to give me a safe landing spot and keep me out of trouble. And that’s a little embarrassing.

Lily: Yeah, I don’t care what her intent was. I see this role as vital. You will have a lot of responsibility.

Billy: [ Sighs ] You don’t need me. You can do this on your own, lily. In fact, I think it’s better. There are people out there that think your only position at chanccomm was to babysit me, okay? They do not know what you’re capable of. And this is your opportunity to get everything that you deserve.

Lily: I know, but when jill announces me as sole ceo of chancellor, people will see that, and you coming to work with me is not gonna change that.

Billy: I love you and I plan to spend the rest of my life with you, and I’m gonna watch you soar from the sidelines, cheering you on, okay? On top of that, I’ve got other plans.

Lily: Yeah, I know, and that’s what I’m worried about.

Adam: Jill abbott has just added a new wrinkle to our plans for chanccomm. It’s not the worst news in the world, but it is an annoyance. She’s put the division up for sale to the highest bidder.

Sally: Okay, I’m confused. I thought the opportunity to grab chanccomm is actually what you wanted. That the whole scheme with you and your father regarding billy would somehow lead to getting control of it.

Adam: Maybe so. Maybe not, but jill opening up things like this, it gives newman media a lot less control over the situation. A bidding war comes with a lot of unknowns.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Yeah, but all you have to do is bid high, right?

Adam: If only it were that simple. We’ll have no idea who we’re competing with. It’s not the negotiating position I was hoping for. But there is one positive that will remain constant.

Sally: What’s that?

Adam: Billy loses no matter who wins.

Sally: [ Huffs ]

Lily: I got the feeling that you were formulating some kind of plan when you told me not to worry about you last night.

Billy: Is that my reputation? Do I come across as always scheming?

Lily: [ Scoffs ] Do you really want me to answer that?

Billy: [ Sighs ] Look, yesterday, I was sifting through all the damage that victor and adam inflicted, and i had a thought. Do I really want to get back at them? The truth is I do, but not at the expense of losing you or before your future is secured. I will not do anything until you are announced as the new ceo at chancellor. I don’t want anything to distract from your accomplishments or undermine you in any way.

Lily: Well, I really appreciate you waiting, but you have to tell me what you’re planning.

Billy: I will. I’m not gonna lie to you about anything, but I will say, i don’t think you’re gonna like it.

Victor: Well, that is incredible news. I mean, that’s incredible. So dominic will have his father and abby will have her husband.

Ashley: Abby is just ecstatic, as you can imagine. She’s over the moon.

Victor: [ Sighs ] I was worried about our daughter. And there was a chance that she’d lost her husband, i thought she might go off the deep-end, you know?

Ashley: I know. Well, I’ve experienced that kind of grief and it was unbearable for me to think that my daughter would have to, as well.

Victor: Yeah, horrible. By the way, how is chance?

Ashley: Well, all the other team members, they died in the explosion, so unfortunately, he’s bearing the weight of all that grief and all that trauma. So much so that he felt obligated to stay there, victor, and finish the mission.

Victor: Oh, my goodness.

Ashley: Thankfully, abby was able to convince him to come home.

Victor: Wow, you mean there was a chance that he might have stayed?

Ashley: Yes. I mean, it’s just a testament to her strength, to her — her love for him, her sheer sense of will, that she convinced him to come home.

Victor: That’s our daughter. Who do you think she has this strength from? Both of us, huh? So I think that once he gets to know his son — and I speak from experience — he will change all of his priorities.

Jill: You were hurt? You were hurt? How bad? Did you get treatment for it? Darling, please don’t ignore it. We don’t want you in the hospital.

Chance: Grandma, really, I’m fine. I am, I’m totally fine. I did hurt my leg, but I was treated by the best.

Abby: Kim and errol didn’t just heal chance, they kept him safe, too.

Chance: They sure did, and at great risk to themselves, too. I just feel terrible for what i put everyone through. But given the danger of the situation and the potential threat to my family, I just — I didn’t really have a choice. I couldn’t have lived with myself if something had happened to any of you or dominic, you know.

Jill: No, I understand. I mean, you acted honorably and selflessly. Even not seeing your new son.

Chance: Who I get meet for the first time today.

Jill: Where is my grandson — great-grandson, my great-grandson?

Abby: Devon’s been looking after him. He is so good with the baby, and he’s just an amazing friend.

Devon: I really couldn’t be happier that dominic’s being united with both of his parents, you know? ‘Cause it’s something that we never thought would happen. So his whole family’s together now.

Jill: Alright, I will not delay you for another second, but I want to see you back here today, okay? ‘Cause you know I can’t wait to meet little dominic newman abbott chancellor for the very first time.

Chance: Every time I hear his full name, it just makes me smile.

Abby: [ Laughs ]

[ Cellphone rings ]

Chance: Oh. Excuse me. It’s my section chief. Gordan ramsey

Chance: Yes, sir. Thank you for the update, sir.

Abby: So…what did he say?

Chance: Well, he said that there’s been a positive development with the mission. They’ve assembled a new team to take over, and he said the work that my team and I did led to a new breakthrough that should help them track down these attackers.

Abby: That’s great.

Chance: Yeah.

Jill: It’s excellent news.

Chance: That means the work that we did was not in vain. They’re once step closer to nailing these guys.

Abby: [ Sighs ] Well, that’s amazing.

Chance: He also wanted me to know that they’re taking further steps to ensure our safety here. He’s assigned a security detail to genoa city, so we may not see them, but they are here, keeping watch.

Abby: Do you know what this means? For you personally, for all of us?

Chance: It’s almost over.

Abby: Oh!

Jill: Alright, now get out of here and go meet your son!

[ Laughter ]

Abby: Mm.

Nikki: So how do you feel? Do you want to just walk away and not even make a bid on chanccomm?

Victoria: I have to discuss it with ashland.

Nikki: Well, no, of course, i know that. I’m just wondering what your gut reaction is.

Victoria: I take no pleasure watching billy humiliated by adam taking over chanccomm, but as we know, and as adam has made it clear, he wants to gut and dismantle everything that billy has ever accomplished.

Nikki: So are you saying you want to get into a bidding war with newman media?

Victoria: Mother, their whole plan was designed to undermine billy and to weaken chanccomm so that dad and adam could move in, and I doubt that jill offering it up to the highest bidder is going to diminish their desire to get their hands on it, which means they’re gonna be even more aggressive with their bidding and in their tactics.

Nikki: That’s a very good reason against it. I mean, the last thing our family needs right now is more conflict.

Victoria: It’s just a business decision. I’m not going to let my personal feelings get in the way of this.

Nikki: Darling, this involves your brother, your father, and your ex-husband. How can you avoid that?

Victoria: My father has been in similar predicaments in his career, and I — I intend to be exactly the kind of businesswoman that he taught me to be.

Lily: After everything you have been through, you want to attempt something this complex and risky?

Billy: That’s exactly why i need to do it. Surely you can understand that.

Lily: Yeah, I get the intent, but this could all blow up in your face.

Billy: Well, that’s the case with everything in life, isn’t it?

Lily: Okay, even if you pull this off — and it’s a very huge “if” — what do you accomplish other than revenge?

Billy: There’s something missing in all of this. All of these talks about who’s gonna pick over the carcass of the company that we built, and that is the fact that ashland locke is guilty as hell. Everything in that article was 100% true. The forged letter, the stolen inheritance that he built his entire empire on, and the fact that it took decades of him hiding it to keep it all under wraps.

Lily: Yeah, I know. You and I know that.

Billy: Yeah, and so victor and adam, but the only thing they were concerned about in all of this was cutting me off at the knees, so if that’s revenge, then maybe so. If I can pull this off, I stick it to adam where it hurts most and I turn the tables on the newmans, and to me, that is a satisfying conclusion to this mess. Most importantly, this is about untarnishing my reputation.

Lily: Yeah, no, I understand your motive, but —

Billy: Lily, I need you to trust me. I don’t plan on failing this time, and I understand that’s rich coming from me, but when the time comes and the moment is right, I hope that you can be in my corner. Sweet pillows of softness!

Sally: So you’re saying that even if you don’t end up owning chanccomm, you would be satisfied if billy loses control of it?

Adam: Exactly. He used the company as a launchpad to personally attack me and my family.

Sally: Well, I guess that makes you a cockeyed optimist, seeing the glass as half-full.

Adam: [ Sighs ] I don’t want it half-full. I want it up to the brim, and i want it overflowing.

Sally: Okay, well, I’m just glad that whatever happens won’t have a negative impact on newman media because I have big plans for our fashion platform. I want to build on our success.

Adam: Well, good, I am counting on that.

Sally: But if you do need my help…

Adam: Thank you, but no.

[ Cellphone rings ] Um, I’m sorry, but I have to take this. Just stick to your day job. You are doing great there. Will you please shut the door on your way out?

Sally: Yeah.

Adam: What did you find out?

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Jill: I am so thrilled to have you on board, lily.

Lily: Oh, thank you.

Jill: And, billy, I want to make sure that you’re okay with all this. Honey, I know that you’re still upset over some of the decisions that I’ve made.

Billy: We don’t need to rehash this, mom.

Jill: Oh, but I think we do. So [Sighs] I know it didn’t sit well with you that I have decided to sell chanccomm to the highest bidder. I know you’re afraid that adam and victor are just gonna take it over, but I want you to understand exactly why I did it the way I’m doing it.

Billy: Okay, I’m able to step back and see this as a business perspective, okay? And I understand your reasoning for it. Doesn’t really matter how i feel. We have more important things to discuss, like making an announcement immediately, saying that lily is taking over for you at chancellor industries when you step down.

Lily: I’m very excited by this opportunity, jill.

Jill: Oh, honey, I have every confidence in you.

Billy: Well, I think it’s time you make a public declaration of that confidence. The world needs to know that lily is not responsible for the debacle at chanccomm. That was my fault.

Jill: [ Laughs ] I’m very impressed with this attitude of yours. However, I am way ahead of you. Check your e-mails.

Billy: [ Sighs ] “Jill abbott will be retiring as ceo of chancellor industries in the near future, but will stay on in an advisory role. She is proud to announce that she will be appointing lily winters as her replacement.”

Jill: You know, I’m proud of you, too, billy, for getting past your anger and for focusing on lily and what’s best for her. Now, I have something else to tell you.

Amanda: Hey.

Devon: Hey.

Amanda: You ready?

Devon: Yeah, I am.

Amanda: Yeah?

[ Knock on door ]

Devon: Hey, guys. Gosh, I just got the news, and i still can’t believe it, man. Get in here.

Abby: Hi!

Devon: It’s so good to se you.

Chance: Good to see you.

Amanda: Welcome home.

Chance: Hey, thank you. Got to give abby a lot of credit for that.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: Yeah, yeah, she definitely never gave up on you, but you scared us to death when you disappeared the way you did.

Abby: I know. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to worry you, but I just needed some time alone. I needed to clear my head and think everything through.

Devon: Yeah. No, I understand, and you proved us all wrong.

Abby: Everything inside of my was telling me that chance was still alive. I just — I couldn’t let it go, and I was right. And my husband is back.

Chance: And now I’m ready to meet my son.

[ Chuckles ]

Devon: Yeah.

Devon: Alright, so dominic’s sleeping upstairs, but this is all of his stuff.

Abby: You know, I really can’t thank you enough — taking dominic in your home. I mean, the way that you’ve been there for us every step of the way. You’ve really been my rock.

Devon: Well, you don’t have to thank me for that. That’s what friends do.

Abby: You will always have a very important role in dominic’s life.

Devon: Yeah, I know that. You won’t be able to keep me away.

[ Chuckles ]

Chance: Look, man, I know i owe you more than words can saY. You’ve been a constant for dominic since the very beginning. I mean, you even helped bring him in to this world. You’ve been the strong and steady presence that my son’s needed. And the father figure that i couldn’t be, so thank you.

Devon: Yeah, yeah, man. Hey, it’s — you know, the reason that I got involved in the first place was to help you guys, you know, make your dream of having a family a reality. And none of us could have seen this play out the way it did, so the most important thing is that you guys are both back.

Chance: Yeah, we are ready to start that dream, right?

Abby: I’m gonna find a way to pay you back for everything.

Devon: Oh, get out of here, abby. I — you don’t have to do that. The only thing I want is to know that you’re in a better head space emotionally than before you left.

Abby: How could I not be?

Chance: [ Chuckles ]

Lily: Wait, this is amazing. Chance is alive?

Jill: [ Laughing ] Yeah.

Billy: And on his way to meet his baby boy as we speak.

Jill: Yes, but this is not for public consumption. Not just yet.

Lily: Okay.

Billy: I don’t understand. Why all the secrecy?

Jill: Well, even though precautions are being taken, chance could still be in danger from the people that he was after, and by extension, his family could be at risk, too. And on another note, ugh, can you imagine what my grandson is going through after that ordeal?

Billy: I hope you know that you can trust me to keep your confidence, despite some of the decisions I’ve made recently.

Jill: Son, I have decided to focus on the future, and i really encourage you to do the same thing. You realize this is not an ending, alright? I mean, hopefully this is gonna be a brand-new beginning for all of us, and I’m sure that something good is gonna come out of this.

Billy: I feel the exact same way.

Jill: Great. Okay. I’m off to meet precious little dominic. I’m so excited. Alright, I’ll talk to you both later.

Lily: Okay, have fun.

Jill: Bye.

Lily: Bye. Oh, my gosh, can you believe that? I mean, abby must be over the moon.

Billy: I’m very happy for abby and her family, and how about my mom, being so proactive with that announcement? It’s exactly what I wanted her to do.

Lily: Oh, so you could be free to put your plan in motion?

Billy: No, so the rest of the world finds out exactly what i already know — that you are a smart, talented star that is on the rise.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Well, thank you for saying that, but we should focus on the task at hand, which is getting to the office and letting the staff know what’s going on.

Billy: I thought we already sent out a memo.

Lily: I know, but I think some face-to-face is in order.

Billy: [ Sighs ] Okay. Why don’t you head back and get started, round up the troops. I’ve got a phone call to make, and I’ll meet you there.

Lily: Look, I know that you are more upset than you let jill realize, and I know that you would be really upset if victor and adam took over chanccomm. So I have to ask you, are you moving forward with your plan?

Billy: I’m not ready to make a move quite yet. I mean it. I’m not gonna do anything until I have worked out every single detail. Even the slightest hiccup right now would mean I don’t get what I want.

Lily: Okay. I’ll see you at the office.

Billy: Hey. I’m proud of you.

Lily: Thank you.

Adam: Have you seen this?

Victor: Huh. I’m impressed. No kidding. Well, that’s a brilliant move on jill’s part, naming lily as her successor.

Adam: Yes. It appears jill is distancing herself from her own son.

Victor: Of course she is. She’s a smart businesswoman, he’s an idiot.

Adam: His own mother. That’s got to sting.

Victor: Yeah.

Adam: But the calculus has changed now that she’s put it up for bidding. We could end up paying a lot more money for chanccomm than we originally intended, and it blows up our plans to cannibalize and dismantle the company.

Victor: Ah, makes it a bit more complicated, doesn’t it?

Adam: Yeah, we’ve successfully cut billy off at the knees. I mean, he’s been humiliated publicly, with his lame retraction, and privately, when he had to step down and beg for mercy. So do you just want to leave it at that? Or do you want to make a play to get control of chanccomm?

Victor: [ Chuckles ] We’ll see.

Victor: Curious to know how all this will play out, you know? The fact that jill opened up the bidding for chanccomm makes things a bit more complicated. But you love that challenge, don’t you?

Adam: [ Sighs ] I do.

Victor: Ah. You know that victoria’s going to join the bidding, as well. If, for no other reason, but to prevent us, newman media, from getting control of it.

Adam: You think she wants to avoid adding insult to injury because billy’s suffered enough.

Victor: Yeah. Something like that. So curious to find out how far victoria will go to get what she wants.

Victoria: Well, at least that answers our question. Jill has made it very clear where lily stands in her eyes.

Nikki: I’m sure you are wondering how all of this is affecting billy.

Victoria: Mom, I’m sure he’s happy for lily and relieved that he didn’t ruin her future, too. So at least now one of them can come out of this unscathed.

Nikki: That would be a very appropriate attitude for him to have, yes.

Victoria: But I know billy, and I — even though he’s not admitting this to anyone, I know that this is hurting him. I’m really glad that I made the decision to send the kids to boarding school for the rest of the year.

Nikki: Have you told billy that you made that decision yet?

Victoria: No, no, but I’m going to. I’m gonna make it clear that I’m committed to doing this, because I think this is the kind of thing that could push him off the rails. Things could get really ugly.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Hey. Heard the news. That’s got to hurt.

Billy: I’ve had better days.

Sally: You look like you could use some company.

Ashley: Hi. Oh, don’t worry, I’m sure they’ll be back here soon. They know how anxious you are to meet dominic.

Jill: Okay, good, but as long as I have you here, I’d like to hear a few more details about what happened in spain. Okay? I didn’t want to upset abby, but why in the hell couldn’t chance have found a way to let us know that he wasn’t dead?

Ashley: There was a security issue.

Jill: Oh, you can’t tell me there wasn’t one single federal agent in all of the government that couldn’t have let us know that he didn’t die in that explosion? They had to know what his family was going through.

Ashley: Jill, I think they truly believed that he didn’t survive. Everybody else perished in that explosion. Chance didn’t know who he could trust. He didn’t want to put his family in danger. Does that make sense?

Jill: So he was protecting us by letting us live through hell, right?

[ Sighs ] Well, he’s just lucky that abby was the one who found him and brought him home, ’cause if it had been me, I would’ve throttled him on the spot.

Nikki: Hi, darling.

Victor: Hi, sweetheart.

Nikki: What’s on your mind?

Victor: Trying to figure out my next move.

Nikki: On the chess board or with your search for abby?

Victor: Abby. Seems that jack and ashley and my investigative team have turned valencia upside down and so far found nothing.

Nikki: Are they still sure that’s where she went?

Victor: Yeah, it’s the only lead we have. You know, that’s what they’re focused on.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Nikki: Maybe somebody has good news.

Victor: Oh.

Nikki: What, you’re not gonna answer it?

Victor: No. It’s an old colleague from newman enterprises, and I don’t feel like shooting the breeze with anyone right now. I’m thinking about my daughter.

Nikki: Well, you’re doing everything you possibly can.

Victor: Yeah, but what worries me is that my investigative team has interviewed almost everyone who served with him in iraq, you know? And none of them have heard anything from — from abby.

Nikki: That must have been difficult news to break to chance’s men.

Victor: He apparently was loved by everyone that he served with.

Abby: After everything you went through, all of the time that we were separated, you want to stay here?

Chance: Abby, I have to finish this mission.

Abby: No, you don’T.

Chance: Yes. They chose me for a reason. It’s ’cause I never give up and I’ve never failed to get the job done. If I back down now —

Abby: They’ll understand.

Chance: Everyone that was killed in that explosion, they were my colleagues, my friends. I have to track these guys down and bring them to justice. They deserve nothing less.

Abby: Look, I understand why you feel so strongly about this. It’s one of the reasons why i fell in love with you. Your sense of loyalty and duty, but what you’re talking about is revenge.

Chance: No, no, that’s not all this is. Okay? Yes, I want to make sure those criminals pay for what they did. But we were so close — we were so close to finding the ringleader of this operation. I have to see this through. If I don’t bring him down, then my team will have died in vain, and I can’t live with that.

Abby: This is not the way to do it — by putting your life in jeopardy again.

Chance: Abby. My section chief is waiting for me to recover, and then he’ll send me my orders. I have to stay.

Billy: Let me ask you a hypothetical question, and just humor me, okay?

Lily: Okay.

Billy: You are approached by a reporter.

Lily: Newman media or another outlet?

Billy: Your choice. They ask you what the hell you’re thinking staying with the man that tanked your entire empire.

Lily: I know.

Billy: Why not just, you know, cut him loose and wash your hands of the whole thing?

Lily: You know, I would say i should, but I love him, we’re partners, and I believe in second chances.

Billy: Wow, I was half-joking, but that is one of the nicest things you’ve ever said to me.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

[ Doorbell rings ]

Billy: Hold that thought.

Lily: Okay.

Billy: Hi, mom. I, uh —

Jill: Aren’t you gonna invite me in?

Billy: Of course. Come here. Please come in, make yourself comfortable.

Lily: Jill. Oh. You look lovely.

[ Both laugh ]

Jill: You always know what to say.

[ Laughs ]

Billy: We’re having some tea. Can I — can I get you anything?

Jill: Yeah, I’d love some tea. Thanks.

Lily: And by the way, billy and I were so sorry to hear about chance.

Jill: Yeah. Uh, everybody told me not to come home, you know, so I could give abby some room to grieve, but I just couldn’t stay away, and then I found out that abby was missing and that jack and ashley are off in spain looking for her.

Billy: What’s that? We didn’t hear anything about that. Jack didn’t mention that when i saw him.

Jill: Yeah, well, you were too busy ruining my media division to pay much attention to family, weren’t you?

[ Cellphone rings ]

Adam: Yes, this is adam newman. Uh, I’m not sure why my father’s not answering your calls, but, um, he’s a very busy man. How can I help you? You sure about that? Thanks, I’ll let him know.

Ashland: 10 — that’s how many times you’ve checked the phone since we arrived.

Victoria: Are you keeping tabs on me?

Ashland: Well, you’re worse than I am. You know, when I was on the verge of making a killing, i couldn’t keep my eyes off my screen. I was always checking to see if the prey I was after had rolled over in defeat.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Well, I know you think I’m checking to see if billy and lily have spoken to jill about our offer to buy chanccomm.

Ashland: You’re not?

Victoria: No, I was actually hoping for an update from my father about jack and ashley’s search for abby.

Ashland: I should have known. Your family is focused on other issues right now.

Victoria: But since you brought it up, maybe we should think about how we’re gonna handle my father and adam if jill does give us the green light.

Ashland: Well, you know them best. How do you think they’ll react?

Victoria: I think they’ll be less than thrilled, since your lawsuit — or your dropping of your lawsuit — is key to their strategy. But I do think we should tell them about it before they find out from someone else.

Ashland: I don’t know if that’s such a great idea. I mean, why rock the boat if, ultimately, our offer gets rejected?

Chance: No. No, baby, of course I do. I want to be with you again. I want to meet our son and i want to hold him. It’s almost all that I’ve thought about since I’ve been holed up here.

Chance: I just can’t erase what happened to my team from my mind. I-I can’t erase the anger that i feel towards these bastards that attacked us or the guilt that i feel for surviving when the others didn’T.

Abby: You can’t blame yourself. You survived for a reason. And that reason is your son. So you could be a father to him, have a life with him, be a hero to dominic.

Chance: That’s what I told myself when I was lying there in the rubble, that I had to make it out of here, alive, for the baby and for you. Abby, don’t you understand? The men and women in that safe house, they have families, too. They had families. Families that they’ll never see again.

Chance: [ Sighs ]

Billy: I think it’s a little bit of an exaggeration to say that I ruined chanccomm. But the truth is we have taken a hit. Lily and I have talked, and we see a way forward.

Jill: Chanccomm was the other reason I got on that plane, when I got your message that you wanted to talk.

Billy: You called her?

Jill: Well, I’m glad someone called me, billy, ’cause you’ve been dodging my calls.

Lily: And, look, we’re — we’re so sorry about what happened with chance, you know? And he was such a great man, and I know how much you loved him, which is why I hate the fact that I had to call you while you’re dealing with his loss.

Jill: Well, I appreciate that, you know, but the world goes right on turning, even though we’re grieving.

Lily: I know, and that’s why I called, ’cause I know that time is of the essence and we have to decide the future of chanccomm.

Ashland: Adam, would you like to join us?

Adam: Oh, no, I’ve lost my appetite.

Victoria: Oh, that’s a shame, because the special today sounds delicious.

Adam: Oh, what is the catch of the day — chanccomm?

Victoria: What do you mean?

Adam: Is it true? Has newman/locke made an offer to buy it?

Victoria: Where did you hear that?

Adam: You know dad still has connections at newman enterprises. Someone tipped us off that you were gathering funds and you were doing your due diligence.

Adam: I’ll take that as a yes.

Ashland: We are not in the habit of disclosing potential or future business deals with anyone.

Adam: You swore up and down that you were on board with newman media’s plan. We looped you in to every detail. We covered for you. We trusted you. I mean, we treated you like family. Hell, we even kept you in the loop when you went to peru for your treatment. So why’d you go behind our back, huh?

Abby: I know that you’re grieving the loss of your team. I know how difficult that is for you.

Chance: I was trained to complete my missions, no matter what, abby.

Abby: But you’re wounded. You barely made it out alive. Look, and the fact that your — your section chief is waiting to see how — how long it’s gonna take until you’ve recovered, i mean, that’s evidence that they might not send you into the field again.

Chance: I know, but it’s just a matter of time before I’m healed.

Abby: No, you can do it from home.

Chance: I’m the only one that knows what these guys look like.

Abby: Then send your boss a description. Let them catch them. Let them catch the target.

Chance: Abby, I am torn between my duty to — to see this through and my love for you. I mean, how am I supposed to choose one over the other?

Abby: [ Sighs ] Look, you’re right, you shouldn’t make any decisions right now because you are — you’re exhausted and you need some rest, so, um…why don’t we just go lay down. And I can hold you and I can feel your heartbeat and I can just feel how lucky I am that’re together again.

Chance: Abby, I —

Abby: Shh. Just go get some rest, okay? When you open your eyes, you’ll have a new perspective. Come on.

Billy: I still believe that there is a way to rectify this without involving my mother.

Jill: You allowed yourself to be hacked, and worse, you believed the word of a blackmailer, billy. You never learn. You were so blinded by your hatred of — of victor and adam that you just acted without any thought of the consequences.

Billy: You know what, mother? Everything was moving really fast, and if I could change some of the things that I did, i would do that.

Jill: But it’s too late for that, isn’t it? When I handed my media division over to you, you swore to me that you would be up to the challenge.

Billy: And I still think that you were right to believe in me. And, I mean, we accomplished a whole hell of a lot. And the only reason why I was holding on to gaines was to protect us from newman media. I had our company’s best interests at heart.

Jill: If you think that scoundrel is your idea of protection, god help us all.

Lily: Look, we don’t have to do this right now, okay? I’m sure that you’re emotionally exhausted and drained.

Jill: Billy’s excuses are what is exhausting me.

Billy: Look, there’s no excuses for the fact that i screwed up, okay?

Victoria: Not only is your outrage completely misplaced, that’s absolutely ridiculous. You’re the one who orchestrated this elaborate takedown of chanccomm.

Adam: And this was not part of the plan. Or was it? Has your new husband been playing us all along? Has he been making me and victor do all the heavy lifting so he could swoop in for the kill?

Victoria: How dare you. Ashland has risked everything. He’s put his entire reputation on the line. He — he’s the one who’s filing this lawsuit. It’s gonna be costly, arduous. It’s gonna be very public. All while he’s fighting for his life. So you know what? You should back off.

Adam: He knew what he was getting himself into. Nobody twisted his arm.

Victoria: Oh, I guess you weren’t paying attention, because chanccomm was originally newman media, so we have every right to take it back.

Adam: You see what she’s doing? This isn’t about some desire to run a media division, she’s protecting billy again.

Victoria: [ Laughs ]

Adam: She’s looking out for his job.

Victoria: Yeah, billy made his bed, and he can suffer the consequences. I’m not trying to save him or his job.

Ashland: I think we all need to take a breath and remember that business is business.

If we were to have made an offer, it was because we determined that it would be best for our company. All I did was initiate a lawsuit once they published that libelous article. I held up my end of the bargain, okay? And now chanccomm is fair game.

Adam: Thank you for clarifying that.

Ashland: Mm.

Adam: This was your idea, wasn’t it, victoria?

Victoria: Goodbye, adam. Have a nice day. You have always loved vicks vapors.

Abby: Mom?

Ashley: Are you okay? Where are you?

Abby: I don’t know what to do. Um…I need your help. Chance — chance is…

Ashley: Honey, just take some deep breaths, alright? I know how scared you must be. We were all so worried about you. Where are you?

Abby: I’m in spain. I’m sorry for leaving without telling you. I just — I needed to find chance.

Ashley: I’m here, too, with jack.

Abby: Wait, wait, you’re here, in spain?

Ashley: Yes! We came to find you. Now, please, just drop a pin, let me know what your location is, and I will come to you.

Abby: No, no, you don’t understand. I have to do this alone.

Ashley: You’re not doing this alone. I am here for you, no questions asked, no judgment.

Abby: Maybe you can help. But just you, not uncle jack. You have to promise me, or i won’t tell you where I am.

Ashley: Of course I promise. Just tell me where you are and then stay put. I will be there.

Jack: Well, that was a bust. Woman in a restaurant thought she recognized the photo of abby, and — hey, what’s wrong?

Ashley: I found abby, jack. She found me. Go tell the pilot. We’re — we’re going to majorca.

Billy: Okay, look, this is — this is my fault that we’re in this situation, okay? I regret it. But I still believe that there is a way to turn this around. If I step down and ashland drops his lawsuit, we can stop the bleeding and we can repair our reputation.

Lily: You mean I can.

Billy: Yes, lily, you can. The point is we can salvage this.

Lily: Yeah, I don’t know. I’m not so sure about that.

Billy: I have all the faith in the world in you.

Jill: So do I. But I think she’s right. This is damage we might never be able to overcome.

Lily: So what do you think we should do?

Jill: I think billy should step down. I think it was the one smart thing you’ve said today.

Billy: Thank you.

Jill: I’m still not convinced it will have the newmans back off, but…[Sighs] At least it will allow lily to run chanccomm the way it should be run.

Billy: Okay, I accept that, as well.

Lily: There has been a new development since I spoke to you. Newman/locke offered to buy chanccomm.

Jill: [ Scoffs ] At a rock-bottom price, no doubt.

Lily: Well, yeah, they feel like the hit that we’ve taken and the inevitable hits that’ll come from adam and victor, that it might not be worth much.

Jill: Well, they’re probably right. I think it’s very interesting, though, that victoria is willing to go against her father again.

Billy: Okay, we don’t know if we can trust that offer yet. And as far as the newmans are concerned, I mean, do they want to start a war over this? Maybe they’re just toying with us.

Jill: [ Sighs ] This is just one big headache that I would prefer not to have.

Lily: So are you willing to sell?

Jill: [ Sighs ] God, I would hate to hand it over to them, you know, and have chanccomm swallowed up by victoria and ashland.

Billy: I agree.

Jill: [ Sighs ] What are the terms of surrender?

Lily: They would be willing to keep me on as ceo.

Jill: Lily, I would like to speak with you in private, please.

Lily: Uh, well, I’m — you know, billy and I are still life partners, so I would — I would like him to stay.

Billy: It’s okay. It’s alright. I, uh — I’ve been kicked out of worse places. You two talk.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Victor: Ashley. You’re on speaker phone. I’m here with nikki.

Ashley: And I’m here with jack.

Victor: Have you found anything?

Ashley: I’ve got the best news. We’ve located abby.

Victor: Where? Where is she?

Jack: She’s in majorca. We’re about to touch down in a few minutes.

Nikki: What is she doing there?

Ashley: I had some difficulty finding out where she was. When I find out why she was there, I’ll let you know.

Victor: Please tell her that we really want her to come home.

Ashley: She wants to see me, but alone. I’ll keep jack updated.

Jack: And I’ll fill you and nikki in on any details when i get them.

Victor: Thank you, jack. And kindly let her know how much we want her to come back home. Okay?

Ashley: Of course I will. I’ll be in touch soon.

Nikki: Well, what a relief.

Victor: [ Sighs ] Wow. Wow, wow, wow, wow. I’m so happy to hear that.

[ Sighs ] But now I’m concerned that ashley will actually be able to convince abby to come home, you know? She has a very stubborn streak in her.

Nikki: Wonder where she gets that from.

Victor: [ Chuckles ] Adam. My goodness, I’m glad you came by. I have some very good news.

Adam: Well, that is gonna have to wait because I just ran in to victoria and ashland, and you’re not gonna believe what they have done. No one can deliver your mom’s homemade short ribs.

Adam: After I got off the call with elliot and he told me what was going on with chanccomm, I confronted ashland and victoria.

Victor: What did they say?

Adam: Oh, they wouldn’t confirm nor deny, but it was pretty clear that the rumors were true. I mean, after you brought ashland into the family, protected him, defended him, he double-crossed us. I mean, I’d expect this from victoria, but I thought ashland was on our side. Nikki, you must’ve known about this.

Nikki: Whether I did or not, it’s none of your business. I work for newman/locke, not newman media.

Adam: I’m sorry, I’m just — makes me angry, so forgive me.

Nikki: I appreciate how frustrating it is to learn you’re the last to know.

Adam: We need to plan a counterattack.

Victor: Hmm.

Adam: I mean, why are not more angry about this, dad? We could’ve done nothing. We could’ve let ashland suffer with his past being exposed, except we came up with this plan to protect him and victoria. And this is how they repay us?

Victor: Hmm. I just hope this was victoria’s idea. And if it was, it was forward-looking.

Adam: And a betrayal.

Victor: Well, that means she’s looking out for her company, you know? My only concern is that she did this to protect billy boy.

Adam: Yeah, I suggested as much. She denied it.

Victor: That means she’s trying to correct her mistake that she made when she sold that media division of newman enterprises to chancellor.

Adam: And it proves that we can’t trust ashland or victoria.

Victor: Son, in business, you can’t trust anyone. You know that they say the same thing about us. All I care about is cutting off billy boy at his knees. And getting ahold of chanccomm would be icing on the cake.

Adam: So you’re just gonna let them get away with this?

Victor: It has all just begun.

Phyllis: Hey, what are you doing here?

Billy: It’s a lounge. I’m lounging.

Phyllis: Well, you’re taking up space.

Billy: Then I’ll order a beer.

Phyllis: Hmm. Drinking alone?

Billy: Yeah, looks that way.

Phyllis: Lily’s not joining you?

Billy: I’ve been kicked out.

Phyllis: Mm, she finally came to her senses.

Billy: Yeah, don’t get too excited, okay? It’s only because she’s having a conversation with my mother.

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ] Your mother. Jill and lily having a little conversation over you.

[ Exhales sharply ] That’s bad.

Billy: What I’m really worried about is my mother and my business partner discussing the fate of our company without my input.

Phyllis: Hmm, that does sound interesting. Do you mind if I join you?

Ashley: Abby?

Abby: Mom? Mom.

Ashley: Honey. I’m so happy to see you.

Abby: I can’t believe you’re here.

Ashley: Oh, my god, I knew you would be in spain and I knew that you would need me.

Abby: You were right.

Ashley: Oh, my god. Honey, you had us all so worried. You left without saying a word.

Abby: I’m sorry, I just — i didn’t want anyone to stop me from looking for chance.

Ashley: It’s okay. Listen, I know how difficult it must have been for you to reach out to me, and I’m so glad you did. I want to know everything that’s happened. What’s been going on with you?

Abby: You know that intuition, the one that led you here, that led you to find me, I — I had that same feeling that chance was still alive.

Ashley: I understand what it’s like to want something so badly that you just think you know what you know.

Abby: No, the thing is, is i was right. Chance is alive. He’s here.

Ashley: How?

Abby: Chance was thrown back by the explosion at the safe house, and when he came to, he — he found his way here, and he is here. He is asleep. He’s in the bedroom.

Ashley: I can’t believe this.

Abby: I know. [ Laughs ]

Ashley: Abby.

Abby: I know.

Ashley: Abby.

Abby: I know. [ Chuckles ]

Ashley: I can’t wait to tell nina and your father, and we got to let jack know.

Abby: Mom, um, the thing is, is that, um, chance, he physically is okay, but emotionally, he’s struggling.

Ashley: What, he’s been to hell and back and he’s got a long recovery ahead of him — is that what you’re saying?

Abby: Right.

Ashley: Okay. Well, I’ve got some good news, though, because jack is waiting on the plane. So all we got to do is let him know that we’re gonna be there and we’re gonna get chance the best possible care he can get when we get back home.

Abby: Mom, the reason why i called you, the reason why I was so upset is because chance, he doesn’t want to come home.

Ashley: Why not?

Abby: I knew who chance was when I married him. It’s one of the reasons why i fell in love with him — his sense of loyalty and dedication — but now I’m worried that that sense of dedication is too strong.

Ashley: He doesn’t want to leave?

Abby: He’s insisting on completing the mission.

Ashley: Oh. Oh, god. Okay, so he has a very, very fragile state of mind. Right, okay. Well, then we have to have empathy for him, right? As a soldier and as a leader.

Abby: And I guess I have to prepare myself for battle.

Chance: Abby, what have you done? If you’re washing with the bargain brand,

Chance: Abby, what the hell is ashley doing here? Did she come with you? Did you lie to me about coming alone?

Abby: I was just as shocked as you are that my mom was here in spain. Look, I called her for some support, and that’s when she told me that she was here with uncle jack, looking for me.

Chance: Jack, too? Are you kidding me? Abby, this is exactly what I was trying to avoid. How soon till word gets out that I’m alive and my cover’s blown?

Ashley: Chance, jack is still on the plan. He has no idea what’s going on, and abby only told me when I got here. She hasn’t told me anything.

Abby: I would never put you in jeopardy, chance.

Ashley: I would never, ever risk your safety or your mission. I promise you. I’m only here to support my daughter — and you, if you let me.

Chance: [ Sighs ] Look, I’m — I’m sorry I lashed out. But my decisions is the same. I cannot go home until I see this mission through.

Abby: You’re injured.

Chance: I will heal here. Now go home with ashley. You’re gonna have to play the grieving widow a little bit longer until I put this whole thing to bed. And we cannot tell anyone that i am alive, not even jack.

Abby: I’m not leaving you. If you’re staying, then I am staying.

Chance: Abby, it’s too dangerous.

Abby: When I thought that you died, part of me died with you. And I swore that if I ever — if I ever found you, if we were ever together again, then I was never gonna leave your side.

Chance: Abby —

Abby: So, look, there is no talking me out of it. I’m not leaving.

Chance: Please don’t say that. I will finish the mission, and then I will come home. I swear. You got to get back to dominic.

Abby: We both do. It’s time for you to meet your son.

Billy: You know, if you’re here to celebrate my downfall, I’m gonna give you a warning — there’s nothing you can possibly say to me that I haven’t already said to myself.

Phyllis: That’s not what I’m doing.

Billy: Why are you here? Because when was the last time we had a conversation?

Phyllis: I’m feeling charitable right now. You look like hell.

Billy: If you’re trying to make me feel better, phyllis, you’re missing the mark completely.

Phyllis: Alright, alright. Let’s just change the subject.

Billy: Mm.

Phyllis: Alright.

Billy: Great.

Phyllis: Um…jack and ashley, they’re in spain.

Billy: Yeah, I know. Jill told me right before she ripped into me about the debacle at chanccomm.

Phyllis: Ooh, and that was a debacle. I mean, that’s a mess.

Billy: Can you do me a favor? Can you take your charitable spirit just somewhere else?

Phyllis: Okay, you know what? You made an appearance in a dream that I had — a really crazy dream I had.

Billy: I really don’t want to hear about your dream.

Phyllis: It wasn’t a dream like that.

Billy: Okay.

Phyllis: You were giving me advice. You. You know, advice on my love life. You were. I mean, it did seem like you had answers.

Phyllis: You know you’re feeling sorry for yourself, okay? You know, from one screw-up to another, it’s gonna be okay. Even us screw-ups deserve love. That’s what a really wise person in my dream said to me.

Billy: Yeah.

Jill: I’ve been very impressed with the way you’ve run chanccomm since the very beginning. I mean, neil — neil taught you well.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Oh, thank you for saying that.

Jill: Well, it’s the truth. And I do not hold you responsible for this catastrophe.

Lily: No, look, I — [Sighs] I know billy has made mistakes, but he had good intentions, you know? You heard him. He was doing what was best for his family and the company.

Jill: Well, that may be true, but it’s the way he went about it.

Lily: No, I know, I know. Look, he — he doesn’t play by the rules.

Jill: No, and he leaves us to clean up the mess. When chance died, it affected me very deeply. He was [Sighs] So young. I never expected to outlive him.

Lily: I can’t imagine what that’s like, losing a grandchild.

Jill: Well, it put a lot of things into perspective, you know? It, um, made me realize that it’s time for a change.

Lily: Are you planning something?

Jill: I’ve decided to step down from the day-to-day running of chancellor industries and move into a more advisory role.

Lily: Wow. [ Chuckles ] That’s huge. I mean, for me, you are chancellor industries, so you’re leaving some very big shoes to fill.

Jill: Thankfully, I know exactly who I want to fill them. I want you to take over for me as head of chancellor industries. Better skin from your body wash?

Victoria: Billy.

Ashland: We were just talking about you.

Victoria: Has jill made her decision?

Billy: Lily’s discussing the offer with jill back at our apartment now.

Victoria: Oh. They excluded you.

Ashland: Well, that’s a good sign.

Victoria: I’m sorry that it’s come to this, billy.

Billy: I find that hard to believe.

Ashland: You brought this all on yourself.

Phyllis: Jack, hey! How’s everything in spain? I hope you’re calling with good news.

Jack: Yeah, I am. We found abby.

Phyllis: Oh, my gosh, that is great to hear.

Jack: She’s with ashley right now.

Phyllis: How’s she doing?

Jack: From what I gather, she’s having a rough time accepting she’ll never see chance again.

Phyllis: Yeah. You know, with the love of her family and your guidance, she’s gonna get through it, you know?

Jack: Listen, I also have to call nina and jill, but I — i wanted to talk to you first.

Phyllis: Oh, thank you. I’m touched. I feel guilty that you called me first.

Jack: Well, what can I say? You’re on my mind a lot these days.

Phyllis: Well, that is contagious.

Jack: As soon as I get back, let’s get together, have some dinner, talk.

Phyllis: I’d love that.

Jack: I’d love that, too.

Phyllis: Okay, well, go make your calls.

Jack: Yeah, yeah, you’re right.

Phyllis: Hey, I’m glad abby is coming home safe.

Jack: Thanks, red. With any luck, we’ll all be en route to genoa city by tonight.

Abby: Hey. Um, before you make any decisions, there’s someone that you need to see. Look. There he is. There is our boy. Dominic. And it’s not some static photo or — it’s him.

Ashley: We don’t know that for sure.

Jack: We have been to every hotel and restaurant in valencia, ash.

Ashley: Maybe she’s in some low-key place somewhere that we haven’t checked out.

Jack: It is not exactly like abby to stay in an off-the-beaten-path hole in the wall.

Ashley: These are special circumstances.

Jack: Okay, I’m willing to keep looking. I’m just growing skeptical. We talked to local law enforcement. They have seen no sign of her.

Ashley: Right, because she’s probably keeping a low profile.

Jack: Have you seen your daughter? She doesn’t exactly blend in. Look, victor’s security people are striking out. They know a lot more than we do.

Ashley: Jack, everything in my body is telling me that she’s in spain looking for chance. If she’s not here, then where did she go?

Kim: You should rest. You’re gonna need your strength. You must be tired after traveling halfway around the world.

Abby: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, I’m exhausted, but I am too excited to sleep. Thank you so much for calling me back, kim. And when you said that chance was alive and here in majorca, it was the most alive I have felt in weeks. Have you seen him?

Kim: Yes.

Abby: On the phone, you said that he was in a bad way. What does that mean? Can he talk? Is he unconscious?

Kim: Abby, dear, breathe.

Abby: Okay. [ Chuckles ] I’m sorry, I’m just excited. That’s how I get when I’m excited.

Kim: Yes, I know. Chance told me.

Abby: So he can speak.

Kim: Yes. You’ll be able to converse with him, I imagine.

Abby: When? I mean, I have to see him as soon as possible. I’m sorry, I will be calmer.

Kim: We’ve been here in majorca so long, I’m not accustomed to that american energy.

Abby: I just — I don’t think that you understand. Everyone believes that chance is dead and they told me to just accept it. But I held out hope. I kept believing. I mean, can you please — can you take me to him?

Kim: Of course. But there are some things that you need to know first.

Devon: Abby, I know what a big decision this is. And I just want to tell you that I really admire you for having the courage to come and ask me for help and to be open about your feelings.

Abby: Well, this isn’t just about me. This is about — it’s about doing the right thing for dominic. And being with me right now — that’s not the right thing for him.

Devon: I understand.

Abby: I mean, you’ve seen what a mess I have been, my mood swinging from day to day, minute to minute.

Devon: Yeah, but that’s nothing to be ashamed of. Remember that. Okay? I do have to ask you, though — are you 100% sure that you want to leave dominic with me and not somebody in your family? ‘Cause I know that your mom and dad and nina — they’re gonna ask.

Abby: Yes, they are gonna ask me that, but, I mean, you’ve been a part of this journey since day one. I mean, you’ve been a part of his life. You’ve spent more time with dominic than anyone in my family. And you’re just — you’re so at ease with him. All I know is that this feels right.

Nate: [ Clears throat ] I have to say, that was a great thanksgiving dinner.

Devon: Yeah.

Nate: Didn’t think I could eat that much.

Devon: Dude, I didn’t think any human could eat that much.

Nate: [ Laughs ] So what about you? How many sweet potatoes did you consume?

Devon: Sweet potatoes? I don’t keep count, man. I just like them. I had some more, though, at the newmans’.

Nate: Are you kidding me?

Devon: Nah, man. I’m not gonna be rude and reject their hospitality.

Nate: So that’s what you all did after dinner, you went to another dinner.

Devon: Well, yeah, no, amanda went to go see her mom and her sister, so I brought dominic to see his grandparents.

Nate: Okay, that’s thoughtful. Well, elena and I, we couldn’t move. Total food coma.

Devon: Oh, yeah?

Nate: I was in bed by 8:00.

Devon: Wow. I’m sure that was probably nice, though. You know, you haven’t been getting a lot of sleep these days as chief of surgery, I bet.

Nate: Oh, it was nice to have a full day off to eat and sleep and eat again.

Devon: Yeah? How you enjoying it, being in charge?

Nate: Uh, there’s a lot of bureaucracy stuff that doesn’t help heal patients, but I’ll roll with it because, ultimately, we’re doing a lot of good, helping a lot of people.

Devon: That’s good.

Nate: But, you know, i shouldn’t complain about being stretched thin. You run a whole company and now you’re watching a baby. How are you handling all that?

Devon: I’m doing fine. I mean, I’m — you know, I just take time out of my day when i need to. Like when moses moved in.

Nate: But moses is nearly grown, and you haven’t had much time to prepare for little dominic.

Devon: Yeah, I mean, look, don’t get me wrong, I wish that abby never left because we’re all worried about her, but, you know, she — she trusted me with her son, and I’m enjoying every second of getting to watch this little guy.

Jack: Have you heard back from abby?

Ashley: Nothing yet.

Jack: Oh, neither have I.

Ashley: Jack, she could still be in valencia. She could’ve disguised herself. Maybe she’s literally hiding out because she knows how dangerous it would be if the wrong people found out that she’s here trying to get information about chance.

Jack: I suppose it’s possible she’s doing everything she can to cover her tracks. She knows we would come looking for her as soon as we knew she left genoa city.

Ashley: Yeah.

[ Cellphone vibrates ]

Jack: It’s phyllis.

Ashley: Oh, go ahead.

Jack: Buenos días.

Phyllis: Oh, buenos días. Um, uh, listen, I didn’t think you’d pick up. I just wanted to know how it was going, you know, the hunt for abby. Any sign of her?

Jack: Not yet.

Phyllis: Oh, that’s too bad, jack. Um, anyway, I just wanted to, um, thank you again for what you did for me on thanksgiving. It was such a lovely gesture for what could’ve been a very sad and lonely day for me.

Jack: Well, that was the intention.

Phyllis: Well, I really appreciate it. Anyway, I’ll let you go. Good luck on your hunt for abby and bring her home safe.

Nate: When did you learn how to take care of a baby?

Devon: Shoot. You’re looking at it right now, man. I’m learning stuff day by day. I’m figuring out the sounds he makes when he’s hungry, so i make him a bottle, you know. Or when he needs his diaper changed, I know that now. And it’s easy to tell when he’s tired, you just look in his eyes. Can’t hold them open anymore. I’ll sing him a song I make up or something.

Nate: You make up. Ah, poor baby.

Devon: What do you mean “poor baby”? He likes it a lot.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] Well, he’s an infant, he has plenty of time to develop some taste.

Devon: Yeah, that’s very funny.

[ Laughs ] No, he probably will soon, man. He’s — he’s advancing. We were doing tummy time, he already tried to hold his head up and look around. It was crazy. I think he’s gonna hit some milestones sooner than later.

Nate: Tummy time?

Devon: Tummy time. Yeah, when you put a baby on their stomach.

Nate: Yeah, I know what tummy time is. I just, uh, didn’t think we’d be talking about tummy time.

[ Both laugh ]

Devon: I didn’t either.

Nate: So you think he’ll be with you for more milestones?

Devon: I mean…probably not, ’cause the goal is to have abby come home soon, you know. But in the meantime, I’ll be monitoring all his progress. Right? That’s right. I’m always gonna keep an eye on you.

Victor: Well, it has occurred to me that maybe abby’s not in spain at all.

Ashley: No sign of her yet.

Victor: Well, I’ll have my team continue looking. Hopefully they’ll come up with something.

Ashley: Jack and I were just discussing what to do next. We’re thinking of possibly splitting up, that I would stay here and he would go to a different location maybe.

Jack: We were wondering if you and your team had any ideas on where we go next. Any thoughts?

Victor: Well, I keep on thinking about that military pin that we found in the hotel room.

Ashley: Right, it confirmed our feeling that she’d gone to spain to find chance.

Victor: Well, maybe in her desperation to find chance, she tried to contact people that he served with in iraq.

Jack: Yeah, there’s a certain logic to that.

Victor: Now, as we speak, we are compiling all the names of the unit that he served with in iraq, okay?

Ashley: Will you give me that list when you get it? And are there any other angles that we should be considering?

Victor: Well, whenever you find out, I’ll send it on to you.

Ashley: Okay, thank you.

Victor: And, sweetheart, please be careful, okay? Be safe.

Ashley: Of course, you too.

Kim: My husband, errol, he’s away at the moment — he had business in dublin — heard about the explosion in valencia. A few days later, chance showed up here. He was in rough shape.

Abby: Oh, no.

Kim: His leg, torn up. His head, a concussion.

Abby: And he came here because he knew you could treat him.

Kim: That’s right. Errol and I were medics in the service. We know the drill. We stitched him up, cleaned his wounds, gave him a place to rest his head. We knew we were putting ourselves in danger by helping him. We couldn’t tell anybody we’d seen him or even that he was alive.

Abby: Well, I am so grateful that you were able to treat him. You really are a godsend.

Kim: Well, I probably don’t have to tell you this, but he’s one of the best. He’s a great man. And if the situation were reversed, I have no doubt he would do the same thing for us.

Abby: Is that what you needed to tell me?

Kim: No. You need to know that he took the deaths of his colleagues very hard. He has a lot of rage and guilt, and you have to prepare yourself to deal with that.

Abby: Well, I am glad that you let me know.

Kim: His being separated from you has taken its toll on him. And I thought it best for you to come and see him.

Abby: Why didn’t he reach out to me? Or why didn’t he let you reach out to me to let me know that he was alive?

Chance: Because she knew it would put you in terrible danger. At least I thought she knew.

Abby: Chance!

[ Laughs ] No one can deliver your mom’s homemade short ribs.

Phyllis: A mimosa, heavy on the champagne, on the house.

Amanda: Ooh. What’s the occasion?

Phyllis: What’s the occasion? Sutton! Guilty as charged.

Amanda: Oh.

Phyllis: How do you feel?

Amanda: Ah, I feel relieved. Yeah, I know that sutton’s pride took a real hit when he heard that verdict. He realized he wasn’t gonna be able to get away with murder.

Phyllis: Right. How long is he gonna be locked up for?

Amanda: Well, the sentence hearing isn’t until another few weeks, but at his age, any prison time is gonna be a life sentence.

Phyllis: Yeah, for sure. So how do naya and imani feel about it?

Amanda: Oh, they’re relieved, too.

Phyllis: Oh.

Amanda: Yeah, they’re fine with it. I think they realized how much control sutton exerted over their lives, and they’re just finally able to make their own choices. It’s good.

Phyllis: Hey, I know you wanted justice for your father, and now you have it.

Amanda: You know, when i started searching for my birth parents, ugh, I never could’ve imagined that it would’ve turned out like this. But I see the irony in it. You know, sutton, he forced my mother to give hilary and me away, all because he wanted to protect his image. He ended my father’s life for that same reason. That’s all that he cared about. And in the end, look, he has nothing, and the granddaughter that he never wanted is standing shoulder-to-shoulder with naya and imani, and after everything he did, we’re still a family anyway.

Phyllis: You know why that is. It’s because of you. You forgave naya and imani for rejecting you initially. A lot of people wouldn’t have done that. They would have held a grudge.

Amanda: Well, I realized that they were just pushing me away because they were scared of sutton, so I wanted to help them. I wanted to help them get out from under his thumb, and, you know, I’m really glad that I did because my life is so much richer with them in it.

Phyllis: You won.

Amanda: Yeah, maybe.

Phyllis: Yeah, no, not maybe. You won.

Amanda: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: You did. Maybe it was your dad, you know, looking out for you. Like a guardian angel.

Amanda: [ Chuckles ]

Phyllis: Or not. I don’t know. Maybe you don’t believe in angels.

Amanda: No, I — I think maybe you’re right. Even though he never got a chance to raise me like he’d hoped, I do like to think that he is looking out for me and he’s proud of me.

Phyllis: I’m sure he is.

Nate: I’m glad we were able to meet up.

Devon: Yeah, me too, man. You going back to the hospital?

Nate: Of course. It’s gonna be pretty packed. You, uh — you got some more tummy time coming up?

[ Both laugh ]

Devon: Maybe a little later. Maybe. No, I’m gonna make some calls before I give him his bottle.

Nate: [ Sighs ] I can tell how much he means to you. You’re great with him.

Devon: Thank you, man. Thank you. I appreciate you saying that.

Nate: I just want to be sure you’re prepared for what comes next. It must be an amazing feeling to know you’re his biological father. You know, you get to see a bit of yourself in him, but when abby comes back…

Devon: Man, I — yeah, I know what you’re getting at. And I’ll be okay. I will. I’m enjoying this special time we’re getting to spend together, but I know that abby’s his mom, and the sooner that she can come back and she can heal and be the mother that he deserves, the better.

Abby: I was so afraid I was never gonna see you again. Oh, my god. Here you are after all these months.

Chance: I’ve been dreaming of this. I’ve been dreaming of you. Here you are with me now, just more beautiful than ever. Look at you.

Abby: Oh! [ Laughs ] I — I never gave up hope. I knew in my heart, I knew in my soul, that I would see you again. I knew it was just a matter of time before we were together again.

Chance: I hated that I made you suffer and that I couldn’t tell you what was going on. I’m so sorry. I hated that the mission took so long. All I wanted to do was complete it and come back to you. Sometimes life just doesn’t work out the way you want it to. I’m sorry.

Abby: But it did work out, because you are alive and we are together.

Chance: [ Chuckles ]

[ Sighs ] Kim shouldn’t have brought you here.

Abby: No, no, no, no.

Chance: It’s too dangerous.

Jack: I’m not sure that will be necessary.

Ashley: Before we left for spain, you said you were having some conflicting feelings about her, and we were gonna talk about it on the flight over, but…

Jack: Because we were focused on the issue at hand. Besides, your initial reaction when I started talking about phyllis didn’t exactly serve as enticement for me to open up more.

Ashley: I will try to keep my attitude in check. So how can I help?

Jack: My feelings for phyllis have indeed resurfaced, and i have concerns about acting on them.

Ashley: Hmm.

Jack: We’ve served as friends and confidants, and…that’s worked out pretty well. Starting a new relationship is fraught with pitfalls.

Ashley: Hmm. Well, sure, given your history.

Jack: Exactly.

Ashley: Well, you’re talking like you’re somebody who’s putting on the brakes, but you just sent her an entire thanksgiving dinner and then you video-chatted with her for an hour while she ate it. Doesn’t exactly sound like a man who’s conflicted and concerned, jackie.

Jack: No.

Ashley: Mnh-mnh, sounds like a man who’s falling back in love.

Amanda: I think that that is a wonderful suggestion, but not quite yet.

Phyllis: So what?

Amanda: You were beaming. You eyes lit up just talking to him.

Phyllis: What?

Amanda: Uh-huh.

Phyllis: What?

Amanda: Yes.

Phyllis: That’s an exaggeration. They weren’t lit up.

Amanda: I don’t think that it is. I think that you took my advice. I think you did some soul-searching, and I think you realized that I was onto something, that there is something more going on between you and jack.

Phyllis: What?

Amanda: That maybe you’re really not over him.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] What? I mean, I don’t get it. I have all of these feelings when it comes to jack. I don’t understand them, but frankly, it scares the hell out of me.

Chance: Abby, I love you, and I love that you never gave up on me, but coming here, it was the wrong move.

Abby: Nothing that could make me this happy could possibly be wrong. I was going crazy without you, and I can’t imagine what it cost you being isolated like this.

Chance: But I had to do it. I had to. I mean, I’ve gone to great lengths to make sure the people that orchestrated that bombing believe that I’m dead.

Abby: And I’m sure they do. Everyone thinks you died in that explosion. Everyone but me.

Chance: Abby, you’re not hearing me. You’re not hearing me. I did all of that to protect you and our family, and by coming here, you — you may have undone all that. You may have put that all at risk.

Abby: No, I was careful. I was careful. No one knows that I’m here. Look, my father couldn’t even track me.

Chance: [ Exhales sharply ]

Abby: No one knows where i am.

[ Chuckles ] Oh.

Victor: Well, I’m glad i found you at home, devon.

Devon: Yeah, we just got back from a walk and visiting with nate, so he’s sleeping right now. Keep it quiet.

Victor: Uh, just got a call from jack and ashley. They’re in spain, and they have found no trace of abby.

Devon: Nothing yet. Well, it’s early. They just got there.

Victor: I apprised christine of what’s going on.

Devon: I’m sure she wasn’t happy to hear what abby did.

Victor: She is very unhappy with abby. The fact that abby ignored all the warnings that this could be very dangerous for her to go to that site of the explosion, you know? But I asked christine to tell us for sure that there were no survivors because we need to know. I don’t want abby to just go chasing after someone that doesn’t exist anymore, doesn’t live anymore.

Jack: I thought you were gonna keep your attitude in check.

Devon: He’s doing good. He didn’t sleep very well last night, though.

Victor: Oh, yeah?

Devon: Yeah, he woke up a bunch of times, but I think he’s still just getting used to his new surroundings here.

Victor: I’m sure you’re right.

Devon: And he misses his mother. I know that.

Victor: You bet he misses his mother. You know, I want to thank you for taking such good care of him. And nikki and I want to thank you for bringing him by to our thanksgiving dinner.

Devon: Absolutely. He should always be with his family for the holidays.

Victor: You know, when he showed up, he lifted our spirits, although we realized that someone was missing at the table.

Devon: You know, I’m starting to think that we made a mistake by trying to discourage abby from going and looking for chance, ’cause if we had been supportive, I think she would be in contact with us, at least, now.

Victor: Well, but we had to try to make her listen to reason.

Devon: I do know, but I’m starting to wonder if, you know, maybe this is truly what she needs to get closure and she has to suffer for a little bit while she proves to herself that chance is really gone. It’s something that I never considered.

Victor: I got to tell you something about abby, she has always been stubborn. I mean, very stubborn.

Devon: Yeah.

Victor: Okay? So even if you had told her to go to spain, even if you had lent her your jet to fly there, she would’ve insisted on going incommunicado.

[ Cellphone vibrates ] Promise you.

Devon: Maybe that’s the news we’ve been waiting for.

Abby: We can’t change what happened. But I am here to bring you home to meet your son.

[ Chuckles ]

Chance: I have a son?

Abby: Yeah. [ Chuckles ] Here, and he’s beautiful and healthy.

Chance: [ Gasps ]

Abby: [ Laughs ] Dominic phillip newman abbott chancellor.

Chance: [ Chuckles ] That’s quite a handle, but i sure do love it.

Abby: Yeah.

Chance: Oh, my gosh.

Abby: The “d” is for devon. The “m” is for mariah. And, well, phillip is obviously after you. And I just — I wanted him to know how many families he’s a part of. How many loving families.

Chance: Wow, abby, he’s perfect.

Abby: Yeah.

Chance: Look at him. That’s my boy.

Abby: Yeah.

[ Both laugh ]

Chance: That’s my boy.

Abby: Yeah. Oh, he’s just — he’s the best. He makes these little sounds and he smells so good.

Chance: [ Chuckles ] Where is he now?

Abby: Well, he’s in good hands. Devon is taking care of him. Yeah, and I’m sure there are a ton of people who are calling, wanting to be backup support.

[ Chuckles ]

Chance: Where does devon think you are?

Abby: Well, he thinks that i am taking some time alone to grasp everything that happened. And then, before I left, i dropped off a note that said i would be gone longer than i originally thought.

Chance: Well, they must suspect what you’re up to. I mean, your parents would be able to put it together.

Abby: Well, possibly, but they would never know that I’m here in majorca. Look, I was so careful. I covered all of my tracks. Don’t worry. Don’t worry.

Chance: I have so many questions.

[ Chuckles ]

Abby: Well, you are the one that’s been gone for months. I have so many questions. Like, how and why did you end up here? I want to know everything.

Chance: Yeah.

Abby: Mm. For people who could use a lift

Phyllis: Oh, I don’t understand all these feelings I’m having for jack. I don’t get it.

Amanda: I know, especially so soon after breaking up with nick.

Phyllis: Oh, thanks for reminding me. That’s great.

Amanda: I’m sorry.

Phyllis: I love nick. I do love him. In so many ways, I always will.

Amanda: Yeah. But you said you were keeping your guard up with nick.

Phyllis: Not initially. Initially, it was amazing. But then it took a turn and i don’t know why. All of a sudden, we stopped speaking the same language and there was a lot of misunderstanding, miscommunication, and, you know, I was bracing myself, waiting for the next argument. When is it gonna start? And I was always on guard regarding his family. And…

Amanda: But it’s not like that with jack.

Phyllis: No, it’s not like that with jack. I can be me. Oh, the question is, am I ready for that?

Jack: I’ve been carrying these feelings around by myself for a while. Maybe it’s good that I talked about them openly.

Ashley: Well, I hope I helped a little bit.

Jack: Well, I appreciate your sisterly advice. Maybe we can change the conversation.

Ashley: Oh, did I hurt your feelings?

Jack: No, no, I appreciate you being so candid, but it’s kind of a moot point. There’s nothing I can do about it while we’re here in spain.

Ashley: You did send her an entire thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings from spain, so there’s that.

Jack: I promise, I will deal with it when we get back.

Ashley: Yeah. Now we got to get back to why we’re here.

Jack: Yeah, let’s focus all our energy into finding abby.

Ashley: Nothing matters more.

Chance: I got to the safehouse in valencia around dusk. I was walking to the front door when the explosion happened. Blew me back about 30 yards. Hit my head, a beam from the ceiling landed on my leg. I was in so much pain. I didn’t lose consciousness, though. I wish I had. I heard the screams in the building. I was able to get up. I was fighting through the pain, but I had to get in there and see who I could save.

Abby: You went inside?

Chance: I had to see if i could get those guys out.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Chance: I didn’t find anybody. The devastation was overwhelming.

Abby: I’m so sorry.

Chance: I didn’t really have that much time to think about it. The guys that planted the bomb showed up, making sure there were no survivors. So I buried myself under some concrete and I played dead.

Abby: Oh.

Chance: Once they left, I was able to slip away, right before the fire department showed up. I wanted to stay close and monitor the situation, you know. I was in bad shape. I needed to find medical attention from somebody that i trusted.

Abby: So you came here to kim and errol’s house so they could help you?

Chance: I knew they could keep a secret. I snuck onto a freighter that was on its way to majorca. I was thirsty, starving. My head was throbbing so much, i could — I could hardly see. I made it here. Kim and errol, they — they took good care of me. After they patched me up, i contacted my director, and we both agreed that for the sake of the mission and for my safety, that we couldn’t tell anybody that I survived.

Abby: So the authorities withheld information. They withheld the truth. That’s why christine thought that you were dead.

Chance: I’ve been here, laying low since. Healing, waiting.

Abby: It breaks my heart what you went through. And I know it’s gonna take a lot of time and a lot of effort for you to get through this, but i am here. And I’m here to take you home. Look, I know that you are on the road to recovery and I can get you out of here safely and anonymously. It’s time to leave this place behind. his is jack. And I know the timing isn’t right. The timing is never right. But I think you know what you want. I think you just don’t want to admit it.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ]

Amanda: How do you think jack feels? Do you think he feels the same way?

Phyllis: Pretty sure that he has feelings, yeah.

Amanda: Okay, well, then i think the only question that you need to answer is what are you gonna do next?

Phyllis: [ Scoffs ] I have no idea.

Jack: Maybe we’re on the wrong track. Maybe abby’s in paris. I mean, she has the place there that dina left her.

Ashley: No, she — she rented it out because she didn’t think she’d have any time to travel when she had the baby.

Jack: Oh.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Ashley: It’s victor. Hello, victor, I’m here with jack.

Victor: I am here with devon. And I just spoke christine, and she confirmed that there was no one left after that explosion in valencia, okay? So there’s no one for abby to try to contact.

Ashley: Well, I guess that narrows our search. Is there any word about the soldiers that chance served with in iraq?

Victor: We’re compiling a list of whoever he served with, and we’ve been calling them. And so far, no one has been contacted by abby.

Devon: There’s still a lot of people on that list that have yet to be contacted.

Ashley: So basically, what you’re saying is we don’t have very much to go on.

Victor: I’m sorry, ashley.

Ashley: It’s okay. I know you’re trying everything.

Jack: Sounds like the best thing we can do right now is to keep searching here in Valencia.

Victor: We will try everything in our power to come up with something concrete.

Ashley: I’m so incredibly worried about her. She’s here all by herself. She doesn’t have her baby. If she did go to the explosion site, then she must be devastated. If she’s realizing that she’s never gonna find Chance, then how badly is she gonna fall apart?

Chance: I’m so sorry that I put you through this. That I put everybody through this. But I can’t go. Not yet.

Abby: Why not?

Chance: It’ll be just a little bit longer, I promise. But I have to stay here and finish things up in Spain. I can’t leave until the mission is over.

Abby: Well, no, no, no. The mission is over. [Scoffs] All of the men that you worked with are all dead. It’s time for you to come home.

Chance: Abby, I saw the guys that killed my men. I saw the guys that killed my friends. I recognized one of them. I have to find him.

Abby: Why?

Chance: Because he will lead me to the guy on top. The whole point of this mission was to find a criminal that fled the US to set up shop overseas. I’m gonna go get him.

Abby: Why don’t you just let another agent handle it?

Chance: No, no, no. I can’t, I can’t, Abby. I can’t. I have to see this through. I need to. I’ve never failed or left a mission, and I’m not gonna start now. And I will never forget what happened to my men. I will bring down the people who killed them. My men deserve no less.

Billy: You’re stepping down as ceo at chancellor and appointing her as your successor. Yeah, she filled me in.

Jill: I was hoping that you’d be happy for her.

Billy: Who says I’m not? I think it’s an amazing opportunity and she will be fantastic in that role if she chooses to take it.

Jill: “If”?

Billy: Well, we’re a team, mother, and a damn good one. But you know that. You’re the one that put us together in the first place.

Jill: Well, I don’t want to separate you. I’m hoping that you’ll come and work at chancellor industries.

Billy: In a lesser role, so you’re not exactly kicking me to the curb, but you’re not standing by me either.

Jill: Billy, please try to understand why I have to do this.

Billy: Get it, okay? It’s crystal clear. Right now I want to know what your plan is for chanccomm.

Jill: It’s too early to say.

Billy: Lily told me you’re thinking about selling it.

Jill: That is an option I’m considering.

Billy: Okay. Well, as much as I hate hearing that, I can make peace with it as long as you don’t sell it to victor and adam. With everything they did to me, they should not be rewarded for their behavior.

Jill: Well, I’m not thinking about it in those terms, and i can’t do as you’re asking. I mean, I will do what’s best for chancellor industries. It’s a business decision.

Billy: Yeah, it sure as hell doesn’t feel that way, because to me, it feels like you’re siding with the newmans over your own son.

Tessa: Ahh.

Mariah: What is this monstrosity?

Tessa: [ Laughs ] This is what you get when the woman you love used to be a barista and knows all the tricks of the trade.

Mariah: It’S…obscene, but it looks obscenely delicious. So thank you. You do realize I — I kicked my caffeine tolerance when I was pregnant.

Tessa: Oh, well, okay. Well, I will happily drink it if you’re not interested.

Tessa: [ Laughs ]

Mariah: Thank you for taking such good care of me.

Tessa: Well, I just wanted to show you how glad I am that you’re taking a break from work.

Mariah: This is actually my second break today.

Tessa: Oh, what’d you do on the first one?

Mariah: I went over to devon’s to see the baby.

Tessa: Oh, yeah? Oh, well, how is the baby?

Mariah: He’s great. He’s as handsome as ever, and i even got a few giggles out of him.

Tessa: Oh. Baby giggles are the best.

[ Chuckles ] Well, sounds like he’s thriving, and abby will be very relieved when she gets home.

Mariah: Whenever that is.

Devon: I know you like hanging out with me, buddy, but don’t you want to go to sleep and dream about all the things you’re gonna do when you’re big and you’re strong. All the people you’re gonna meet. Places you’re gonna go. All the adventures you’re gonna go on. Just got to get some rest first, okay? Let’s get some rest.

[ Grunts ] That’s my little guy.

Devon: He’s adorable all the time.

Devon: Never a dull moment, I’ll tell you that. What’s on the agenda for you guys today?

Amanda: No, well, I was just about to, but you barged in.

Imani: Okay, let me tell him, please. I think this is something he needs to hear from me.

Jill: Oh, I don’t deserve that.

Billy: How am I supposed to forget that? You remind me every chance you get.

Billy: And I let you down? Is that the point you’re trying to make? Because that’s what you’re telling the world, that you share victor newman’s low opinion of me.

Billy: Leave him — how am I supposed to leave victor out of this? He’s the one that set this whole thing in motion. He set the trap that I fell into, and now, because of that, my own mother has given up on me.

Devon: It’s very exciting. This is — it’s a big change for you, too. How do you think it’s gonna be after working for so many under your grandfather?

Imani: You know me, I like a challenge.

Devon: [ Chuckles ] Well, hey, if you guys need any help with setting up the office space or finding a designer, let me know.

Amanda: Yeah, naya gave us the exact same offer, but i don’t know, I think that imani and I are looking forward to making this happen on our own.

Devon: Okay, I hear you. Do you guys already have a list of places you’re interested in?

Amanda: Um, yes, we have a few very promising spots.

Devon: Yeah?

Amanda: Yeah.

Devon: Nice, alright. Well, I’ll get out of your hair and let you guys do it and wish you luck.

Imani: Oh, she doesn’t need luck. She’s got me.

Tessa: What happened to putting ourselves in abby’s shoes?

Mariah: They got a little tight.

Tessa: Imagine if one of us, god forbid, died suddenly, far from home, without ever getting a chance to say goodbye.

Mariah: Tessa, I would be crushed, and I’m sure abby is devastated. I mean, losing chance has got to be heartbreaking for her. All I’m saying is wild horses couldn’t tear me away from my child. And nobody knows where she’s gone or when she’s gonna be coming back.

Tessa: Wait, abby hasn’t been in contact with anybody?

Mariah: Well, no, devon told me earlier that, you know, she sent a text and she wanted to do a live-stream with the baby.

Tessa: Well, that’s good. Abby wanted to see his sweet little face in real-time. And she’s making sure that he’s okay. That’s all that matters is that she knows that he’s being taken care of. And not just that, loved and doted on.

Jill: What do you expect from me? Do you honestly believe that you are fit to run an international conglomerate?

Billy: I ran jabot.

Jill: Yeah, and we all know how that turned out.

Billy: Up until a few days ago, you were thrilled with chanccomm’s success. Our revenue was through the roof. Our audience grew exponentially. We had award-winning, amazing journalists on our team.

Jill: And yet you were willing to risk all that success to re-ignite your feud with victor and adam.

Billy: It’s funny that you see it that way. All of this, from the beginning, was about protecting johnny and katie. You know his nickname is the locke ness monster. And he’s about to become my kids’ stepdad, so, yeah, mom, i looked into him. And victor had the same instinct. For a second, I thought we were actually gonna work together. And if he cared about his daughter as much as he pretends he does, we probably would have. Ashland turned out to be more ruthless than everyone thought, and victor started to identify with him, so they formed an alliance and they came after me.

Jill: And you just couldn’t let it go.

Billy: I did let it go.

Jill: Well, that’s not what i heard.

Billy: [ Chuckles ]

Jill: No, I heard you paid a small fortune to this jesse gaines to stop the wedding. Not only that, you antagonized two of the most powerful men in the world. I mean, how in the hell did you think that would end?

Billy: Gaines sent me a video detailing all of locke’s crimes, and I had everything I needed in my hands to topple victor and locke.

Jill: Well, what happened to it?

Billy: I deleted it. I deleted it to protect victoria, okay? And I thought, at that point, it would be enough to end all of this.

Jill: Oh, my god, why did you go to such extremes in all this?

Billy: Because, mother, i have already lost one kid, and I’m not gonna let that happen again.

Jill: Oh, darling. Darling… look, there has never been a hint that ashland was a threat to your children, and surely you couldn’t believe that victoria would put them in danger. So please tell me, why were you so bound and determined to stop that wedding? Is it because you still have feelings for victoria?

Billy: I love lily, let me be very clear. She feels like home to me, and i expect this to last the rest of my life. Victoria and I, we’re nothing more than co-parents. That’s it.

Jill: But then why were you so compelled to keep her from moving forward, even putting chanccomm at risk?

Billy: Look, I didn’t expect it to go this far, and I probably should have.

Jill: Maybe your motivation is that you just cannot resist battling your nemesis. I mean, the gambler in you has to have that rush.

Billy: Okay, again, I did set all this aside. And then victor came to me, face-to-face, and told me that he was going to get his revenge. He was gonna come after chanccomm. Look, I’m not proud of some of the things that I did, alright? But I was trying to live up to my commitment to you, to lily, to our staff, and so I grabbed the only weapon that I could get my hands on.

Jill: Blackmail.

Billy: I never intended for that article to see the light of day. And then victor and adam hacked into our system and authorized the release of it to get leverage over me. And, yes, I shouldn’t have sunk to their level.

Jill: I just gave you too much power, that’s all. I gave you too much power before you were prepared to know how to use it.

Billy: Mom, everything was fine. Everything was great until ashland came into the picture.

Jill: You know what? You have to be in a position where you’re free to generate your genius ideas, where you can capitalize on your talents, darling.

Billy: Yeah, okay, so you still want to give me a nice, little soft landing spot? Let me be very clear here. I am not going to accept the coo position at chancellor.

Jill: God, stop it, stop it! This is what’s wrong with you! You are so damn impulsive.

Billy: There it is. Is that what you’ve wanted to say this whole entire conversation? Thank you very much for that. I appreciate it. Means a lot.

Jill: [ Inhales sharply ]

Tessa: Oh, noah, come sit down!

Mariah: Hey!

Tessa: Hi.

Noah: That is not on the menu.

Mariah: [ Laughs ]

Tessa: Wow, you really think so?

Mariah: Excuse me. I tell you that all the time, and yet when he says it, you believe him.

Tessa: Well, wait, okay, whoa, whoa.

Mariah: [ Laughs ]

Tessa: That’s different. You’re biased.

Mariah: I know genius when i see it, so…

Noah: You know, she’s not wrong. I think you got a hit here.

Mariah: Believe him.

Tessa: Wow, I was so scared that the reason that you weren’t talking to me is because you didn’t like it and you couldn’t figure out how to tell me.

[ Laughs ]

Noah: Look, I promise, I’ll always be honest with you. And honestly, tessa, I love the songs.

Lily: Aww, what an adorable little guy.

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Lily: I just want to grab him and squeeze those little cheeks and his pudgy legs.

Devon: Oh, you do that, you can go ahead and work on putting him back down for his nap.

Lily: Oh, stop, I’m not gonna wake him up, okay?

Devon: We both thank you.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] I think it’s great what you’re doing for abby. And I love seeing you dote over a little baby. It agrees with you.

Devon: [ Chuckles ] Well, this guy makes it very, very easy. Very easy. Is that why you came over here, though, to get your baby fix?

Lily: Well, that’s part of it. And also, I could use your advice. When they’re sick, they get comfortable anywhere

Tessa: Okay, you loved the songs — check. Caffeine fix — check. Now tell me all your ideas for the album cover.

Noah: Well, damn, you come up with all those killer songs overnight?

Tessa: Yeah, like in an hour.

Noah: Oh, right, okay.

[ Chuckles ] Look, we both know inspiration takes time. You know, I got to sit with it for a little while, live it, let the music breathe, listen to it a couple dozen more times.

Mariah: Mm-hmm, do a ton of procrastinating.

Noah: Yes, that too, actually. And then — and only then — will the images start to flow.

Tessa: So you’re gonna torture me.

Noah: Yes.

Tessa: Ugh.

Mariah: Who is it?

Tessa: It’s my manager. I need to take this, but I will be right back.

Noah: It’s good to see you taking some time off work.

Mariah: Well, somebody had to babysit the artists.

Noah: Speaking of babies, i heard that abby really did leave town after all, just like you thought. That must be a little upsetting.

Mariah: Yeah, tessa and i were just talking about that.

Noah: Oh, yeah?

Mariah: Tessa’s right, as usual. Yeah, abby is doing the best that she can under the circumstances. I would hate people criticizing me when — if — I’m a mother, you know.

Noah: Well, you think you’re so special that you’ll be the one exception?

Mariah: [ Scoffs ] I’m not special?

Noah: Oh, no, you’re special, yeah.

Mariah: Okay, okay.

Noah: No, come on.

Mariah: Chill.

Noah: Come on, you’re free-spirited. You know, you’re free-spirited, flouting convention. Your kids will be the ones with purple hair, singing in the checkout line, wearing stripes and plaids together.

Mariah: Mm, yep, that sounds about right.

Noah: And I’ll love them like crazy. Although there will be people who disapprove, but who cares what they think?

Mariah: Definitely not me.

Noah: It seems like you’re doing really well. And it seems like things are going good with tessa, too.

Mariah: Yeah, they are. You know, we’ve had a pretty chaotic few months, so…

Noah: Yeah, yeah, that’s the understatement of the century.

Mariah: [ Laughs ] Thank you, but, yeah, we’re in a really good place now.

Noah: I’m glad to hear it. Really. That’s not always easy, remembering why you got together in the first place. Sometimes it can be harder than it sounds.

Mariah: Wow. Somebody really did a number on you.

Imani: We’re on step closer to opening our law office.

Amanda: Yeah! I’m glad that we were able to see everything that was out there.

Imani: If anyone would have told me when we first met that one day we’d be going into business together…

Amanda: Mm, you would have laughed really, really hard.

Imani: And then banished them from my life for all eternity.

Amanda: We certainly have come a long way from when you served me with that restraining order.

Imani: Mm-hmm.

Amanda: But now, what should we celebrate with?

Imani: [ Inhales sharply ] I always like a nice bordeaux. But since we’re on the verge of signing our first lease, I think this occasion deserves something truly spectacular.

Amanda: Champagne?

Imani: Ooh, good idea. And it’s my treat.

Imani: Well, I thought about doing other things, but then when I brought up the idea in front of our grandfather, i learned to keep my mouth shut.

Amanda: Yeah, I’m sure that that was really hard.

Imani: Mm-hmm. Don’t get me started. It was the path of least resistance.

[ Sighs ] But now I get to work with my big sister, which is going to be a wonderful experience. I can’t wait to get started.

Amanda: You know, I love that I didn’t just gain a sibling, but I gained a partner. Okay, so, you know, now, before we celebrate, maybe we need to figure out which space we like best.

Imani: Okay, why don’t list the pros and cons of each location?

Amanda: We could do that, but there is one place…

Imani: That you loved?

Amanda: Mm, that is perfect.

Imani: Are you thinking about the same place I’m thinking about?

Amanda: We must be. The storefront.

Imani: The high-rise.

Amanda: Hmm.

Devon: Alright, so you need my, uh — my advice on your love life with the bad boy of chanccomm?

Lily: The bad boy of chanccomm?

[ Laughs ] No, billy — billy and I are good.

Devon: Yeah? I saw that article that you guys put out about locke, and then the sketchy retraction.

Lily: Okay, first of all, that story was true, but the newmans blackmailed our one and only source to recant the story, and, you know, now jill is here to put out the fire.

Devon: I’m sure, too, to be with the family because of what happened to chance.

Lily: Yeah, of course, but, you know, I talked to her, and she’s had it up to her eyebrows with billy, and now she’s thinking of selling off chanccomm just to was her hands of it.

Devon: She really is? I didn’t know it was that bad. Where’s that gonna leave you?

Lily: If I tell you, you cannot tell anyone.

Devon: Okay, yeah, I won’t say anything.

Lily: Jill is thinking of retiring and making me ceo of chancellor.

Devon: Get out of here.

Lily: Yeah.

Devon: Really?!

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: Oh, my gosh!

Lily: Mm-hmm.

Devon: Well, congratulations. Geez, you’re — that’s — you’re gonna run my grandmother’s company.

Lily: Yeah, right?

Devon: Man. Neil would be so damn proud of you. I’m sure he’s smiling at you right now. He’d want to throw a party. We should.

Lily: Yeah, that’s what jill said.

Devon: Are you — am I the only one who’s happy?

Lily: No, no, I’m — I’m happy.

Devon: I’ve seen you happy before, and this ain’t it.

[ Scoffs ] What’s wrong? Have you talked to billy about it? Does he know about this offer?

Lily: Yeah, no, I’ve talked to him. He’s thrilled, you know? I think he’s just upset with himself for the choices he’s made and upset with jill for not believing in him, and furious with adam and victor for, you know, sabotaging us.

Devon: Yeah. Well, that’s a lot of anger to be holding on to.

Lily: Yeah, exactly. And I’m afraid of where it’s gonna be directed.

Adam: Good to see you, billy. How are you enjoying early retirement?

Billy: I guess I need to remind you that my offer to step down from chanccomm was contingent on victor getting ashland to drop his lawsuit, which never happened. So I guess you and daddy don’t have as much control over locke as you thought. Never trust a man who steals his best friend’s identity and his mentor’s fortune.

Adam: Hmm. I heard locke and victoria made their own offer for chanccomm, so that’ll make things more interesting.

Billy: Yeah, adam, you got played. And I know how hard you worked to bring me down, you’re not gonna have anything to show for it when I land on my feet again.

Adam: Well, that remains to be seen. Newman media could still scoop up the remains of chanccomm. But you know what? The ugly truth is it doesn’t matter who gets it because nobody wants you attached. So I’m gonna settle for the sweet satisfaction that you paid the price for releasing that exposé about me, because as far as I’m concerned, that’s what all this is about.

Billy: And there it is, the new-and-improved adam still holds a grudge.

Adam: Billy, the next time that you are wallowing in booze and self-pity, which I assume will be in any minute now, i just want you to remember — you brought all of this on yourself.

Noah: Well, you know the old saying — “what happens in london stays in london.”

Mariah: Nobody has said that ever, not once.

Noah: Oh, okay. Well, how about “no comment,” then?

Mariah: All I’m trying to say is I don’t really care why you’re here, I’m just really glad that you are.

Noah: Thank you.

Mariah: And I hope that you’re staying because you want to be here, not because you’re avoiding something or someone across the pond.

Noah: No, I’m glad to be back. Yeah, I want to take this time, relax, recharge, think about what comes next.

Mariah: What comes next is an iconic album cover for tessa.

Noah: Yes, yes, I’m honored that she would ask me. I think this project will be good, keep my creative juices flowing.

Mariah: And it’s gonna introduce you to, like, a whole new audience. But if you need a diversion, I have the perfect thing.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Noah: What is this?

Mariah: This is christian’s pee-wee basketball schedule. If you need to let off some steam, there is nothing like screaming your head off in the bleachers.

Noah: Well, it sounds fun. I’m in.

Amanda: The storefront is the ideal location.

Imani: Perfect spot if we’re opening a shoe store or a deli. We need a place that’s aspirational, that speaks to our clientele.

Amanda: Well, we are not focusing on corporate law, so we have a wide range of clients, and it is important that our place doesn’t feel too elitist or imposing.

Imani: But the storefront is miles away from the courthouse. And don’t you think the high-rise, it lends a certain air of professionalism and legitimacy?

Amanda: We should be impressing people based on our results, not on our address.

Imani: Well, you’re the one with the impressive track record. I’m just starting out.

Amanda: I’m also the mentor, so maybe you should take my advice and take a breath.

Imani: Mm, and have some champagne.

Amanda: No, no, not yet. We — [ Sighs ] We do need to figure this out. Okay, um…you know, there is one option that we still haven’t discussed.

Imani: The converted victorian.

Amanda: It is steps away from the courthouse, so it checks that box.

Imani: And it’s street-level, so it won’t be intimidating.

Amanda: It’s homey.

Imani: Traditional and classic.

Amanda: Oh, gosh, and it’s gorgeous. Did you see those hardwood floors?

Imani: I was too busy crying over the high ceilings and the fireplace.

Amanda: Well, I love the way that that place is just flooded with natural light.

Imani: I already know how I’m decorating my office.

Amanda: Oh, and how do you know that that’s your office? What if I want it to be mine?

Imani: Okay, we can fight about that later.

Amanda: [ Laughs ] Okay, fair enough. I guess we just have to call the listing agent and put down a deposit.

Imani: Agreed.

Amanda: Ooh!

Imani: Now, can we please enjoy this champagne?

Amanda: Yes, yes, we can. Okay. To sinclair and benedict, attorneys at law.

Imani: Mm, maybe it should be benedict and sinclair.

Amanda: Girl. I’ve been telling everyone,

Mariah: [ Chuckles ]

Tessa: What did I miss?

Mariah: Oh, um, pee-wee basketball and your album cover.

Tessa: Ooh, I hope it’s not a mash-up.

Noah: No, no, no, separate topics.

[ Laughter ] Hey, what do you want the cover to look like, though? What feelings do you want to leave your listeners with?

Tessa: Hmm. Okay. I want something that is evocative and looks good even when it’s about an inch high.

Mariah: For streaming purposes.

Tessa: Yeah.

Noah: Oh.

Tessa: Um…hmm. Ideally, every time you look at it, it gives you something else to discover. Something to imagine, something that you notice, you know?

Noah: Something like this?

Tessa: Uh, yeah. Oh, that’s beautiful. I love it.

Mariah: Yeah.

Noah: Also got that one.

Mariah: Oh, wow.

Tessa: Oh, my gosh. Wow, these are perfect.

Noah: Also those.

Tessa: [ Laughs ] Wow. Uh…yeah, I mean, I think we speak each other’s language. I want something just like this.

Noah: But totally different, right?

Tessa: Oh, yeah, I mean, you get me. Wow, I am so excited. This is gonna be so much fun.

Noah: Yeah, I’m already inspired.

Tessa: Well, let’s get to work.

[ Laughs ]

Devon: Look, I know what you mean when you say that victor and adam were taking advantage of billy’s weaknesses, but really hurt is when they take advantage of his strengths.

Lily: Yeah, I mean, billy would do anything to protect chanccomm from them, you know? It’s his baby. It’s our baby.

Devon: Yeah, I know. I get it. He didn’t want to let his people down.

Lily: And listen, I’m not innocent in this either, right? Like, I also got drawn in to victor and adam’s schemes and was willing to do whatever it took to protect what billy and i had built together.

Devon: Yeah, but you reined yourself in, whereas billy couldn’T. And that’s the difference, right?

Lily: Yeah, but I — I’m not upset with him, you know? I don’t want to punish him for what he did. His heart was in the right place. I just want to help him through this.

Devon: I’ll tell you this, what you have with billy, i mean, it’s a far cry from what you had going on in your marriage.

Lily: Yeah, no, I mean, even though we disagree a lot with work, I never feel like our relationship is in jeopardy, you know? We’ve never betrayed each other. I’ve never questioned how he feels about me. You know, we’re just happy that we found each other. We make our relationship the priority. It’s more important than any job.

Devon: So you’re in love. Right?

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Yes, very much so.

Devon: Then all you have to do is make sure that he knows that.

Adam: You know, I don’t have to stop you, billy, ’cause you’re gonna fail. This whole thing, it’s gonna blow up in your face. And, man, I can’t wait to have a front-row seat to your humiliation.

Jill: Coming! What the hell do you want? We do it every night.

Devon: Well, let me know how everything goes in the studio, and send me those audio tracks as soon as you can, too. Okay, thank you.

Amanda: Hey.

Devon: Hey.

Amanda: Where’s our little dominic?

Devon: Louise has him upstairs for his bath.

Amanda: Oh. Mm.

Devon: How are you doing?

Amanda: Mm, I’m good. What, you’re trying to get work done? How much work did you get done?

Devon: I got a little bit done.

Amanda: Yeah?

Devon: Enough. How did office hunting go?

Amanda: Oh, well, after some negotiating and compromise, i think that we’ve found a space that speaks to both of us.

Devon: Really?

Amanda: Yes.

Devon: That’s faster than i anticipated, ’cause imani can be a little imani, you know?

Amanda: Yes, well, I toned her down a little bit.

Devon: That’s good.

Amanda: Yeah. How was your day here with dominic?

Devon: Ooh, something very special happened today.

Amanda: Ooh, what?

Devon: You know the rattle — his favorite rattle — that he always smiles at?

Amanda: Mm-hmm.

Devon: So I was dangling it over his head, and he reached up and grabbed it by himself and started shaking it.

Amanda: What?

Devon: All by himself.

Amanda: [ Laughs ] The student becomes the teacher.

Devon: I mean, he’s obviously a prodigy.

Amanda: [ Laughs ] Well, if I had taken any longer to get home, you would have been filling out college applications.

Devon: Oh, yeah.

Amanda: Yeah?

Devon: I’ve already started thinking about that. I’m thinking he can follow in neil and mattie’s footsteps and go to stanford.

Amanda: So, yale is not good enough?

Devon: I mean, you want me to add that to the list? Will that make you happy?

Amanda: That will make me very happy.

Devon: Okay.

[ Both laugh ]

Amanda: But I’m already so happy.

Devon: How happy are you?

Amanda: Mm.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Devon: Oh, no.

Amanda: Oh, somebody has horrible timing.

Devon: It’s probably work. Oh, it’s ashley. Hang on a second. Hey, how’s everything going in spain? You’re kidding. That’s fantastic. That’s — okay. Yeah, no, that’s — that’s — that’ll be just fine. Alright, I appreciate you calling me and keeping me updated. Alright, fly safe.

Amanda: What did she say?

Devon: Ashley and jack found abby and they’re bringing her home.

Amanda: Oh, my gosh, that is amazing. They must be so relieved.

Devon: Yeah.

Amanda: Yeah, is — is abby okay?

Devon: Yeah, she must be fine, ’cause ashley said that when they land, abby wants to come here and get dominic and bring him back home.

Jill: Well, what is it?

Adam: Well, first I’d like to extend my sincerest sympathies regarding your grandson’s death. He was an incredibly brave and decent man.

Jill: Damn few like him.

Adam: You know that he saved my life.

Jill: You know, you are the last person in the world I want to take a stroll down memory lane with, so if that’s all you’ve come to say, please.

Adam: There is another matter that I would like to discuss — the future of chanccomm.

Jill: Oh. That company that you tried to bring to its knees.

Adam: I am sure that billy has over-exaggerated the extent of my involvement in his little pr debacle. But, yes, I did offer help to my new brother-in-law when he fell victim to the same personal attacks that billy has launched against me over the years. The entire family begged billy to ease up on the attacks, but unfortunately, he wouldn’t listen to reason, not even from victoria. So the courts were ashland’s only recourse.

Jill: Hmm. Poor ashland. So vulnerable, so helpless.

Adam: Look, I know that you feel protective over billy, and he has definitely come to rely on your support over the years.

Jill: Whoa, whoa, whoa. I don’t think you want to go there because all of your present-day success you owe to victor’s generosity and forgiveness.

Adam: The point is you are a shrewd businesswoman, and I know that you’re not gonna let personal issues get in the way of what’s best for chanccomm.

Jill: You’re right, I’m shrewd enough to know why you’re here. You are here to salvage the mess that you’ve made and get back in daddy’s good graces.

Adam: Okay, I think you’re misinterpreting my intent.

Jill: No, I don’t think I am. You trash billy, you shrink chanccomm’s value so you can pick it up at a bargain-basement price. Ain’t gonna happen, buddy. So brainstorm a plan “B.”

Adam: Well, thank you for the advice.

Jill: Mm-hmm.

Adam: We’ll be in touch.

Jill: Mm-hmm.

[ Laughs ] Can you believe that guy?

Lily: Hi.

Billy: Hey.

Lily: What are you doing sitting here alone?

Billy: Just thinking something through.

Lily: Oh, what are you thinking about?

Billy: [ Sighs ] Not ready to share that quite yet.

Lily: Okay. How did things go with jill?

Billy: We’re not seeing eye-to-eye, and that’s okay. I’ll come up with my own solution that doesn’t involve a hand-out from chancellor industries.

Lily: So you turned down the job offer.

Billy: Yeah. Hey, don’t worry. When I get knocked down, I get up. You can count on that. And so can adam.
