Adam went to the main house, and Nikki was startled to see him. Adam was trying to get in touch with Victor, and he wasn’t picking up his phone. Nikki said Victor was with Abby. Adam assumed that Victor was getting grandpa time. He hadn’t met his new nephew yet, so he considered dropping by. Nikki said it wasn’t a good time. Adam knew Abby was no fan of his, but he and Connor sent over some baby gifts, and she’d sent them a thank you note. He added that he and Chance went way back. Nikki ordered Adam not to go to the Chancellor estate. Adam asked what was wrong, because maybe he could help. Nikki confided that Chance may have been killed.

Nikki brought Adam up to speed on the explosion. She was sorry to be blunt, since she knew Adam and Chance had a bond. Adam said that Chance saved his life, and he’d thought Chance was invincible. Adam wanted a drink, and Nikki allowed him to use the mini bar. Adam wished he’d been as good a friend to Chance as Chance was to him. Adam couldn’t imagine what Abby was going through, and she had a baby to raise who’d never know his father. When Dominic was old enough to understand, Adam was going to tell him that Chance took a bullet for him. Adam said that Chance’s sacrifice gave him the opportunity to turn his life around. Whenever Adam was tempted to backslide, he’d think about Chance and try to be better, whether Nikki believed it or not. Nikki didn’t doubt that Adam cared about Chance. Adam knew a lot of people would miss Chance. Nikki said that they weren’t going to share this news with anyone until they got official confirmation. Adam understood, but he wondered if Nikki trusted him to keep quiet. He’d assumed she still thought the worst of him. Nikki believed everything Adam said tonight, and when they were in Tuscany, he was very loyal to Victoria and the family. He thanked her. She just hoped this change was permanent and he wouldn’t hurt any of the family again.

Adam acknowledged he’d given Nikki more than enough reason to doubt him for the rest of his life. As he started to say things would be different, she finished the statement with him, because she’d heard that from him many times before. She could see that he’d been successful at changing so far, and she hoped for the best. However, she’d heard that he and Victor were planning something that could have dire consequences. He asked if Nick told her this, and she said yes. She didn’t want to believe it, but she’d been burned by Adam before. Adam abruptly put on his jacket. He didn’t know what he had to do to prove he was on a different path. He felt that everything he did was criticized and doubted, and he always had to defend every move he made. He said maybe in some way, he was the same outlaw, because he didn’t give a damn who believed him or what people thought because he knew in his heart what he’d accomplished, and he knew how far he’d go to become the man he was always meant to be. He rushed out.

Victoria went to Society, where she called Abby and left a message saying she loved her and offering her support. Victoria promised she wasn’t going to share the news with anyone. Nick was at the bar, and he asked Victoria to sit with him and talk. She grudgingly told him he could say his piece but she was leaving when her takeout order was finished. Nick admitted he was hurting. Things weren’t good between him and her, or Victor, or Phyllis. He didn’t know what he did to tick off the universe. The only sibling he was getting along with was Abby, who had her hands full with the baby. He said Victoria was always the one he turned to when his back was against the wall. He said she was like his secret weapon. “I could pick up the phone or just drop by and you were always there for me. I hope you feel the same way about me,” he said. He always felt like it was him and her against the world, or at least against the Newmans. He missed that right now.

Victoria said she used to rely on Nick’s support too. “You were always dependable trustworthy and compassionate until you weren’t,” she said. She felt that he’d taken things beyond giving brotherly advice and attacked the man she loved. He wished he’d handled things differently. She missed the closeness they shared, but he hurt her. He said he didn’t mean to. Nick explained that he’d decided to try and to protect Victoria after she told him she had questions about Ashland and how honest he was being about his past. She said the way he went about it, digging up something so personal and private, was what she’d expect from Victor, not from Nick. Nick didn’t know what he was going to find in New Jersey, and he’d hoped he wouldn’t find anything. He said she was right, he should’ve followed his first instinct and left things alone. If he had to do it all over again, he never would’ve gone to New Jersey. Then he could’ve been in the wedding and enjoyed it with her. They couldn’t go back. He hoped that she could consider his intentions and the love that was behind his actions.

Victoria asked if Nick tried to smooth things over with Victor. Nick said that was a different story. Victor didn’t feel like Nick betrayed him, which Victor shouldn’t, so Nick didn’t feel obligated to apologize to him. Victoria was sorry Victor and Nick were having problems. She thought all the problems stemmed from the same issue – whether to condemn or protect Ashland. Nick said Ashland was the catalyst. The core of Nick’s problem with Victor was always the same – Victor embraced them when they fell in line and cast them aside when they defied him. Victoria thought it was more complicated than that. She asked if he tried hearing Victor out. The last time Nick and Victor talked, Victor didn’t get it. The only thing Nick cared about was fixing things with Victoria. Victoria asked what about Phyllis. Given Phyllis’s strong feelings on the family, Victoria would’ve thought she’d be cheering Nick on in his battle against them. Nick said he wasn’t at war with Victoria, and he didn’t want to talk about Phyllis. Victoria noted that Nick said he missed her, but he didn’t trust her enough to confide in him about the woman he loved. He said it depended on whether she was asking because she wanted another chance to say “I told you so,” or if she was asking because she was closer to forgiving him.

Victoria might relish in an “I told you so” about Phyllis, but Nick was her brother, and no matter what, he came first. It wasn’t going to be easy, but she was going to try and forgive him. She said they would need family to rely on sooner than they might think. He asked if it was because of Ashland. She said they just needed to be able to depend on each other as a family. He wanted to regain her trust. She said he could start by telling her what was going on with Phyllis. He said that he thought the relationship was over, probably for good. He figured Victoria thought it was for the best. “That’s who you think I am?,” she asked. She’d never be friends with Phyllis. Phyllis hurt her a lot. Nick said Victoria hurt Phyllis too. Victoria agreed. She said she never should’ve gone after Phyllis’s hotel. Nick said that was the beginning of the problems with Phyllis. He’d felt like Victoria was asking him to choose between Phyllis and the family. Victoria clarified that she never wanted Nick to get involved in that. Nick said that in Tuscany, he told Phyllis not to get involved, and it hurt her. He said that if Victoria was hoping for a break up, she got what she wanted. Victoria said that wasn’t her mindset anymore. She felt that life was a gift, and to squander that gift by being angry and cruel seemed senseless. He assumed Ashland’s health crisis put things in perspective. She said that was a big part of it. She wouldn’t denigrate what Nick and Phyllis shared and could share in the future. Victoria thought that Phyllis might be the one person who could make and keep Nick happy. “you aren’t the only one,” Nick said.

Adam arrived at Society and approached his siblings. He assumed Nick and Victoria had reconciled, and he congratulated them. He said his invitation to the sibling reunion got lost in the mail. Nick told Adam not to play that black sheep victim act, not when Adam and Victor were thick as thieves. Adam wasn’t playing games, he was just happy to see Victoria and Nick getting along. Victor’s PI arrived, and Adam excused himself and sat with the man.

Nick told Victoria that this was the second time he’d seen Adam with Victor’s PI. He thought there was a plot going on. Victoria said it was nothing for Nick to worry about. Nick assumed Victoria was aware of what was going on. She didn’t know all the details, and she was glad she didn’t. She told him that he didn’t want to get involved either. Nick joked that they’d been apart so long that Victoria didn’t know him anymore. He introduced himself and said he liked getting involved. She said Victor and Adam were planning something against ChancComm. He wondered about her being okay with them going after Billy’s company. She said that if Billy wanted to play in the big leagues, he had to be able to handle the retaliation. Nick said things could get dicey. Victoria made sure that her kids wouldn’t get impacted. She said Billy drew first blood when he flew a blackmailer halfway across the world to stop her wedding. Nick couldn’t argue with that or defend Billy, but it was weird to hear Victoria talk like that. She said she wasn’t Billy’s keeper. It just sounded to Nick like Victoria was on Adam’s side, and he found that odd. Victoria said she wouldn’t go that far. She was grateful Adam helped with the wedding, but she’d always be a little suspicious of him. She said that Nick was bro-ing it up with Adam, drinking beer and watching sports. Nick said he tried to befriend Adam, but then he saw how Adam was sucking up to Victor. Nick did admit that Adam made a semi-sincere offer to play peacemaker between Nick and Victoria. Victoria thought it must be hard for Nick to see Adam and Victor grow closer as Nick drifted away. Nick was just grateful Victoria was giving him a second chance. Victoria said they seemed to be one step closer to being okay. Nick was hoping they were further along, but Victoria said one step was all she could do right now. She left. Adam’s meeting finished and he joined Nick. Nick asked why Adam was spending so much time with the PI. Adam said it was just Newman Media business.

Nick asked what kind of Newman Media business required a PI. Adam said he wasn’t going rogue. Adam knew, per Victor, that Nick was feeling like an outcast in the family. Adam knew what that felt like. Nick asked if he ever found it disturbing that Victor loved playing musical chairs with his kids, one minute you were in, then Victor changed the tune, and you were out. Adam said sometimes people put themselves on the outside. Nick had to wonder how far people would go for a seat at the table. Adam said Nick had nothing to worry about. Nick said that if he found out Adam was planning something malicious, it’d mean Adam was a monster. Adam said they shouldn’t be taking shots at each other, with everything the family was going through. Nick asked what that meant. Adam didn’t elaborate. He said something vague about how things were always hard for the Newmans, then he left. Nick’s eyes narrowed.

Phyllis met Amanda at Crimson Lights. Amanda said she’d have a huge glass of wine right now if she didn’t need to testify against her grandfather tomorrow. Amanda talked about Sutton trying to get her on recording admitting that she was testifying against him out of vindictiveness, so he could give the recording to his lawyers and taint her testimony. She said Devon came home early and they took care of it together. Phyllis wanted Amanda to be careful, because Sutton was desperate and crazy man. Amanda said she was fine. Phyllis reiterated her point, adding that Sutton took out Amanda’s father, and he could do the same to Amanda.

Amanda appreciated the concern, but Sutton wasn’t foolish enough to tamper with her brakes the day before the trial. Amanda said that Sutton could still win the case. Phyllis disagreed since Amanda was the star witness, and Michael was the best of the best. Amanda hoped Devon would be able to make it to the trial. Phyllis asked why he wouldn’t. Phyllis rolled her eyes when Amanda said that Devon was spending a lot of time with Abby. Amanda said that it seemed like Chance was really gone. “He’s dead?!” Phyllis exclaimed as Amanda signaled her to quiet down and expressed regret about telling Phyllis. Amanda told Phyllis there was an explosion, and no one had seen Chance since. Phyllis was surprised Nick didn’t tell her. Amanda explained that the family was keeping it quiet until Abby wanted to go public, so she asked Phyllis not to disclose it to anyone. Phyllis promised she wouldn’t say anything.

Phyllis said this thing with Chance put her problems in perspective. Amanda didn’t realize Phyllis was having problems. Phyllis said it seemed like things were over between her and Nick. Phyllis said it was Nick’s family. Amanda was surprised because Nick and Phyllis loved each other. Phyllis said it seemed to be conditional love. She thought the relationship was killed by the death of a thousand cuts. Amanda was sorry, because Nick and Phyllis had something special. “We did, but I guess it ran its course,” Phyllis said. Amanda asked what Phyllis was going to do. Phyllis planned to just go on with her life without Nick. Amanda insisted that they plan a girls’ trip to Vegas and pamper themselves. Michael called wanting to meet Amanda tonight. Amanda was concerned about leaving Phyllis. Phyllis insisted that she was fine, she was going to go to bed. She laughed off her plight, saying she’d broken up with Nick a hundred times before. Phyllis smile faded, and she said she only had herself to blame.

Phyllis went to the hotel. She wrote a text asking Nick if he was okay, but she deleted it. Meanwhile, back at Society, Nick picked up the phone to call Phyllis, but he didn’t send the call through.

Billy came home and told Lily that Gaines was safely at the motel. Lily had a bad feeling about this. She didn’t think Gaines could be trusted, and even if he could be, he was trouble. She didn’t believe his whole story about the harrowing escape from Tuscany. Billy conceded that it was problematic. Lily said that they were trying to protect ChancComm, but Gaines was out for blood.

Billy promised to have the team look at every aspect of the story before they pulled the trigger on Gaines. Lily didn’t see this ending well. He said it’d end with ChancComm staying intact. They debated because he wanted to be proactive, and she wanted to take a few steps back. The more she thought about this situation with Gaines, the more she distrusted it. She wouldn’t go back on the decision not to publish the story. He said they didn’t have to publish the story, just threaten Victor and Adam with it to keep them from going after ChancComm. She wasn’t okay with blackmail. He didn’t love the idea either, but going up against Newman Media called for desperate measures. She said it was underhanded and dirty, but he countered that Victor and Adam would play dirty too. She noted that his plan hinged on trusting a man who disappeared on him in Italy. She asked why Gaines would accept a blackmail deal that only benefited ChancComm. Gaines already said he wanted to take down Victor, Adam and Ashland.

Billy wasn’t trying to sic Gaines on the Newmans like a rabid dog. This was purely a defensive measure. Lily said that could provoke the Newmans even more. She asked if he really wanted to get into this long drawn out battle with Adam and Victor. She said it wasn’t business, it was purely personal. She felt like Billy was trying to prove something that he didn’t need to prove. She noted that he didn’t get a payoff in Tuscany. Billy said he could’ve blown Ashland out of the water with that video, but he didn’t. He deleted it and destroyed the best weapon they had. Lily said Billy did that for Victoria. She thought it was time for Victoria to repay Billy. Lily felt that they should ask Victoria for help ending this senseless feud. Billy said that it wasn’t like everyone was going to listen to Victoria. He’d sent Victoria a message, but she didn’t want to meet. Ultimately, he wasn’t going to run to his ex to ask her to protect his company.

Lily was frustrated that Billy would rather go to war with the Newmans than ask Victoria for help. Billy wasn’t sure Victoria would even be willing to help, since she wasn’t thrilled with him at the moment. Lily just wanted Billy to talk to Victoria. Billy said he and Lily had the means to handle this on their own. Lily felt like she was wasting her breath, and she started to go upstairs. He didn’t want the conversation to end like this. She stopped, and he said things weren’t that simple. She scoffed and rushed up the steps.

At the Chancellor house, Abby held Chance’s wedding ring and cried. Ashley rushed over and hugged her. Devon was outside the Chancellor house. He called Amanda to apologize because he wouldn’t be there when she and Michael went over her testimony. He knew this was a big step for her. She knew she had his support, and she promised she’d be fine. She was worried about this Chance situation. She felt Abby and Dominic needed Devon more than Amanda did. She told him to take care of Abby. He said that was one of the reasons he loved her so much. Devon entered the house just in time to hear Abby order everyone to go away. Victor said they’d give Abby space, but they wouldn’t leave her alone. Abby apologized for her outburst, and everyone understood. Abby didn’t sleep well on the couch, because she kept thinking about Chance, so Ashley convinced her to go upstairs and lie down. Abby looked into Dominic’s bassinet, then she and Ashley went up to the bedroom.

Victor and Devon felt bad for Abby. Devon promised to be there for her and the baby whenever they needed him. Victor was sure this made Devon think about the loss of his father. All Devon’s mind had room for was what was best for Abby and the baby. Devon asked if Victor thought Chance might be out there. Victor had highly placed sources in the State Department, and they’d told him there was almost no chance Chance survived. Devon bitterly complained about Chance taking on a dangerous job just after getting married and promising your wife you’d start a family. He also thought it was dumb for Chance to take a personally engraved watch on an undercover mission. He said that could’ve been the thing that cost Chance his life. Victor said Chance probably felt like he had to take the job. Devon countered that Chance didn’t have to do anything – he chose to do it, and he chose wrong.

Devon felt like Chance didn’t uphold his commitment to Abby and the baby. Victor pointed out that they didn’t know all the details – maybe Chance didn’t have much of a choice. Devon maintained that Chance could’ve stayed home, but he didn’t, and now Abby was alone, and his son didn’t have a father. Dominic started crying, and Devon picked him up and said he was sorry. Victor shared Devon’s frustration. Victor thought Abby was lucky to have Devon. Devon reiterated that he’d be there for Abby and Dominic. Ashley returned and said Abby was trying to fall asleep. Victor and Ashley convinced Devon to go home and rest. He asked that they keep him in the loop, then he hugged Ashley and left.

Ashley asked what they were going to do. She was worried about Abby. Victor was worried too, and he didn’t know what to do. Ashley wished Chance never took that job. They were glad that Devon was around for Abby. Victor said Devon was good with the baby too. Ashley felt that they were blessed that Devon would be an integral part of their grandson’s life. Abby came downstairs because she heard the baby crying. Ashley said that Devon got him to quiet down before he left. Abby couldn’t sleep. Victor suggested Abby take the anti-anxiety meds. Nina came after getting Christine’s call. She saw Abby, and they hugged. Nina began to cry. Until this moment, it didn’t seem real to her.

Victor hugged Nina and told her that his sources confirmed what Christine said. Nina spent so many years bracing for this moment. Now it had happened, and she felt numb. She walked over and joined Abby by the bassinet. Nina asked for permission to hold the baby, and Abby granted it. Nina held Dominic close.

Sutton showed up at the penthouse. Amanda tried to slam the door in his face, but he caught it and asked for five minutes, stating that this would change everything. Amanda asked how Sutton even knew where she lived. He said his attorney told him Amanda was having material sent to this address. He didn’t know she was living here until she just told him. He was happy for her, since it seemed like Devon was a good man who cared about her. Amanda was outraged and started to go off on Sutton. He asked her to consider how it’d affect her mother and sister if she testified against him. She scoffed about him suddenly caring about Imani and Naya. He maintained that he always protected them gave them a good life. She declared that he controlled Imani and Naya, and he only cared for them if they toed the line. He said she was an accomplished attorney, and she knew things were never that simple. He said Imani and Naya relied on him, and he wanted to help them maintain their financial stability. Amanda said Naya had a husband who could take care of her, and Imani was going into practice with her, so she’d be able to take care of herself. He said he was an old man – he couldn’t die in prison. Was she cold-hearted enough to wish that fate on her own grandfather? Appalled, Amanda asked what about her father’s fate? What about her fate and Hilary’s? All were affected by what he forced Naya to do, Amanda said. She snapped that he never gave a damn about them, and he had a hell of a lot of nerve asking for mercy when he’d never shown any to his family. She regretted letting him in. He thought she let him in because she wanted to see him beg for his life. He believed she wanted him to plead with her not to let him be torn away from his family. “The way that I was torn away from mine?,” she shot back. He said she made a show of righteous anger and said it was all about getting justice, when they both knew that this was about being vindictive. “So what if it is?,” she demanded.

“If wanting to see you put away for what you did is vindictive then so be it. Finally you will get exactly what you deserve,” Amanda snarled. Sutton said that it was a mistake to come. He thought she might have a shred of consideration for what she was about to do to her family. Sutton started to leave, but Amanda got in his way. Devon came home and found Amanda demanding that Sutton empty his pockets. She said if he didn’t, she’d call Michael and the police. Devon said he’d watch Sutton while Amanda made the call. Sutton pulled a recorder out of his pocket and Amanda snatched it from him. Just as she suspected. She said all his deep concern about Imani and Naya was a bunch of bull. She said he didn’t care about them, he only cared about himself.

Amanda told Devon that her grandfather wanted to get her on record saying she was only testifying out of vindictiveness, so that his lawyers could use it to taint her testimony. Devon wasn’t surprised, since Sutton would throw all his relatives under the bus. Sutton called Amanda a disappointment. She told him not to dare talk to her about disappointment. Devon kicked Sutton out. Amanda couldn’t believe she almost fell for Sutton’s trap. Devon pointed out that she figured it out. Amanda said that Sutton’s scheme tonight showed that he was scared, which meant he knew the case was strong. She said what Sutton did tonight may help send him to prison. She called Michael and said Sutton goaded her and secretly recorded her. Michael wanted to hear the recording. Devon was proud of the way Amanda handled Sutton. Amanda said that this was the last time she’d let Sutton try to play her. She asked about Chance and Abby. He thought Abby was starting to accept the reality that Chance wasn’t coming back. Abby wasn’t doing well, and Devon was worried about her and Dominic.

Ashland had a health episode while he was alone in Victoria’s office. Victoria came in and found him stumbling around. The issue subsided, and she wondered if he’d be okay to fly to Peru. He was determined to go – the cancer wasn’t responding to the chemo, so there was no time to waste. He wanted to do anything he could to get more time with her. She loved seeing his strength and resolve. He talked about Billy showing up in Tuscany, intent on stopping the wedding, hoping to rob him of the small window of happiness he was fortunate to find with Victoria. Victoria didn’t want Ashland to think about that. Ashland wanted Billy to answer for his actions. Ashland called Victor looking for an update for what he was going to do to Billy. Ashland mentioned that he’d be going to Peru meeting with doctors, so he’d be out of contact for awhile. Victor said that the most important step in the plan had been taking care of, according to Adam. Victor said Billy wouldn’t be able to help himself.

Victoria asked if it was a good idea for Ashland to get involved in this plan against Billy. She suggested it would be better to expend his energy on his recovery. She didn’t want him getting too deep into this plan, because it could cause him stress. He assured her he wasn’t playing a major role in the plan. He just wanted to know how it was moving along. She said that he had enough battles to fight, so he should let her father handle this. He meant it when he promised to be honest with her. He asked if she believed he was completely focused on the battle for his life. She believed him, but she was concerned for him. He reminded her that she said she didn’t have a problem with Newman Media going after ChancComm. He was sure that Billy had entertained thoughts of going after the competition too. She was sure Billy did too. She still didn’t want to know the details, but she did want to know about the possible repercussions this would have on him on his health. He said there was nothing to worry about. She asked if it would have a negative effect on her children.

Ashland swore he’d never go through with anything that had the slightest chance of hurting Victoria’s children. He would’ve done anything to stop Adam and Victor if he thought that her kids would be hurt. He said Billy had proven more than once that he was willing to weaponize ChancComm. Billy dragged Gaines to Tuscany to make a public display at the wedding, and Ashland thought Billy brought this on himself. Victoria didn’t argue that. She said Billy was relentless. Ashland said that what was coming to Billy would be pretty brutal. It had been arranged down to the last detail, but it carried a slight risk. She was concerned it was dangerous. He said no, it was risky in that it might not work.

Gaines showed up on Billy and Lily’s doorstep. His face was dirty, and his hair was unkempt. He wanted Billy to hide him. Billy demanded to know why Gaines disregarded his instructions and left the suite in Tuscany. Gaines saw Billy waffling in Tuscany and wasn’t sure he could be trusted anymore, so Gaines took matters into his own hands. Gaines was going to make his move before the wedding, but Nick showed up and locked him in a suite, then Adam got involved. Adam had Gaines dragged down to a storage room to keep him from disrupting the wedding. Lily asked if Adam held Gaines against his will. Gaines said yes. Then Victor had security drag Gaines to some farm house. Lily guessed they took Gaines’ ID, money and phone so he couldn’t call for help. He confirmed it. At first he thought security was trying to scare him, but then he heard some ominous discussion between the security guards that made him think they were planning to shut him up for good. Billy asked how Gaines escaped. Gaines had been locked in an old wine cellar, and he found a door behind a shelf that lead outside. Lily thought that was convenient. She asked how he got out of Italy with no money or passport. He said he hitchhiked to an airfield and stowed away on a cargo plane to NY. Then he hopped a freight train that took him to Chicago, and he made his way here. Lily asked why Gaines didn’t just access the small fortune that Ashland, Victor and Billy paid him. Gaines didn’t access the money because it would’ve left a trail that the Newmans could use to track him down. Billy and Lily asked why Gaines came here. Gaines wasn’t afraid anymore. He was enraged at the way he’d been treated, and now he wanted to take down Ashland, Victor and Adam. He thought Billy might be interested.

Billy sent Gaines upstairs for a shower. Billy told Lily that if Gaines story was true, it’d have huge ramifications for Victor, Adam and Locke. Lily said they had to be skeptical. Billy agreed they had to look into it. He said they had to get Gaines a place to stay while they vetted his story. Billy didn’t want Gaines to stay at their condo with the kids. He said this was all about getting leverage on Ashland and by extension, Victor and Newman Media. If Gaines was telling the truth, and if he still had that original letter proving that Ashland forged his way into the fortune, they could use it to turn the tables on Victor and Newman media. Lily said those were some big Ifs.

Gaines came downstairs, and Billy said they’d take him to a hotel. Lily said they weren’t taking Gaines at face value. He understood, and he was willing to give them the details they needed to verify every step of his journey. Billy hoped Gaines still had the original letter saying she didn’t leave Ashland any money. Gaines said of course he did.

Billy gave Gaines a baseball hat to wear to hide his face. Lily and Billy quietly talked. He was taking Gaines to the hotel. She wanted him to be careful. He said she was the only one in the world he trusted, and that included Victoria. She was worried, and he said it’d be okay. He said Victor and Adam were coming to destroy everything Billy and Lily built, and he was going to fight like hell to make sure that didn’t happen.

Nick showed up at the cottage unannounced, claiming he wanted to check in with Sharon and the kids. Noah was there, but Faith just left for a study session with Moses. Noah invited Nick to dinner, but he said he didn’t have much of an appetite. Sharon assumed things didn’t go well with Phyllis. Nick said he didn’t want to talk. Noah thought Nick came here specifically because he wanted to talk, and Noah said he and Sharon wanted to listen, because they were Nick’s family. Sharon knew she wasn’t the best to give advice on Phyllis, but she could listen. Nick admitted he did come here wanting to talk, but he wasn’t up for it anymore. Sharon assured him he didn’t have to have his feelings sorted out, since she and Noah knew him better than most, and they knew how messy things could be. Nick explained that he and Phyllis got into another fight, and it didn’t end well. He was pretty sure they were finished. Noah and Sharon were sympathetic. Nick knew Sharon was expecting this when he told her that he was having questions about the relationship. Sharon said she’d never say “I told you so” or imply he deserved heartache. She asked if he thought the relationship could be repaired.

Nick had thought things with Phyllis could be repaired, but Phyllis told him, in no uncertain terms, that she didn’t agree. He said that Phyllis was angry, and nothing he said got through to her, and even when something did get through, she didn’t believe him. He wasn’t sure how things got to this point. He and Phyllis entered the relationship with their eyes open, they didn’t try to change each other, and things were working. He thought things started going wrong in Italy, but Phyllis felt it started way earlier than that. He got drawn into family drama. He guessed he should’ve focused more on his relationship with Phyllis. He tried his best to stay calm with Phyllis, but she was raw and hurting, and throwing accusations at him. Nick flashed back to Phyllis yelling at him. Nick didn’t want to dump all this on Sharon and Noah or for them to feel sorry for him.

Sharon said that caring for Nick wasn’t the same thing as feeling sorry for him. Nick said that after he talked to Sharon and Noah, he went to Phyllis to apologize. Phyllis admitted she wasn’t happy. He said Phyllis also stated that they were in this together and that she was committed to working through their issues. Nick said it turned out that he was the only one willing to put in the effort. He explained that he and Phyllis got caught up in this awkward lunch with Jack and Nikki, and tensions amped up, and Phyllis took off. Nick caught up to Phyllis to try and smooth things over, but she kept shutting him down and telling him the relationship was hopeless. Nick wanted to understand and get past their issues, but Phyllis kept saying that he always put his family before her. He’d told Phyllis that it was impossible to talk about his family with her because she had such strong opinions against them. Nick remembered Phyllis screaming “You’re right. I do hate your family!” Nick didn’t know how to come back from that.

Nick thanked Sharon and Noah for their support and said to give Faith a hug for him. Sharon sent their love to Christian. Nick left. Sharon and Noah felt bad for Nick. Noah knew Sharon was biting her tongue about seeing this coming. Sharon didn’t want to kick Nick while he was down. Sharon admitted she never understood how Nick fooled himself, again, into thinking this relationship would work. Noah liked Phyllis, but he saw that she and Nick were night and day. He never understood the pull Nick and Phyllis had. Sharon thought Phyllis and Nick had the excitement of being forbidden, but once there was no more drama, it got boring and it fell apart. Noah said, maybe, deep down, Nick never got over Sharon.

Phyllis was out of sorts at Crimson Lights as she searched her purse for some money to buy her coffee. Jack showed up, and he swooped in and paid for her order. He wondered if she was flustered was because of the work emergency that caused her to abruptly leave their lunch with Nick and Nikki. She said that she thought she and Nick may have broken up. They got a table, and he urged her to take a deep breath. He said that usually, people were pretty clear on whether or not there was a split. She said they could add lack of clarity to the issues she and Nick were having. She said Jack had a front row seat to the final act with Nick. Jack noticed lunch was strained, but he’d assumed it was a good sign that Phyllis and Nick were having lunch. Phyllis once thought so, but she was sure Jack saw how Nick reacted when she said the slightest thing about Victor. Jack understood why Nick would feel a little awkward after Phyllis criticized his father in front of his mother. Phyllis said that wasn’t it. She felt like Nick reacted the exact same way any time he said something about his family, and she repeated it. Jack acknowledged that the Newman family dynamic was different than that of the Abbott clan. Phyllis didn’t want to be part of it anymore. She faked the work emergency, because she no longer wanted to be part of Nick’s jealousy and judgment. Jack asked what Phyllis meant about jealousy, but Phyllis didn’t hear him because she was still venting. She said all of Nick’s resentment came out and he told her, in no uncertain terms, that they could no be together anymore.

Jack asked what happened. Phyllis was sure Jack didn’t want to hear it. She thought he must be so tired of listening to her. She said she did everything she could support Nick. She was upset that Nick was distracted by Victoria and Ashland during his own daughter’s wedding. She said she supported Nick at Victoria and Ashland’s wedding, but he still thought she didn’t care, and he didn’t understand her point of view. She said she stuffed all that in a box and she supported him. She thought she and Nick were getting somewhere this morning, then they went to lunch. She’d said one little thing about Victor, and Nick shut her down in front of Nikki and Jack. Phyllis realized that she and Nick didn’t deal with their issues, and if they did, it was just on a superficial level. She said the relationship was fluffy and nice on the surface, but rotten inside. She wouldn’t be working this hard if she didn’t care and if she didn’t love him. Phyllis flashed to Nick screaming at her in the fight that took place after she told him that this wasn’t going to work.

Jack suggested that Phyllis and Nick should dig deeper and get it all out. She’d normally agree, but the argument wasn’t productive. Jack thought maybe he could give Phyllis perspective on where Nick was coming from. Phyllis said that she understood where Nick was coming from, but Nick didn’t understand her, and he didn’t want to. She started crying. She said she kept trying to tell Nick that what they had was worth going there for, but he didn’t want to. She thought she had to accept that Nick didn’t want to commit to her. She had another flashback of Nick saying things that hurt her. “You pretending to be superior or taking the high road is absurd,” Nick snapped, during the fight. In the present, Phyllis said that Nick’s lack of respect for her came out during that conversation. “Some things can’t be unsaid,” she told Jack.

It broke Phyllis’s heart and scared her to think about walking away, but that was the only conclusion she had. She didn’t want to fall apart here, and Jack said that they could go somewhere private. He told her that sometimes losing it for a moment helped. She didn’t want to do that. She wanted to go be alone. She said that she and Nick had been here before, so she guessed ending up here again was inevitable. Jack didn’t agree. He said she and Nick had gotten past this before. He suggested that this might be the last time they’d face something like this. Phyllis thought this was the last time, but it wasn’t the way she’d hoped.

Phyllis went home, and Jack called to make sure she made it okay. He said he was there if she needed him. She said he was the best. Phyllis had a flashback to the fight. “Oh please. It’s not a flirtation,” she said. “Then what is it then? Because from what I can tell, the second we have a conflict, you run straight to Jack,” Nick said. Phyllis thought about and decided against calling Nick. Meanwhile, Nick was outside Phyllis’s door. He raised a fist to knock, but he didn’t go through with it.

From their respective locations, Nick and Phyllis both remembered the fight that occurred earlier. She’d told Nick it wasn’t going to work, then she’d gone to her suite. Nick followed, asking how she could say that and then walk off without explaining herself. She argued that all she did was explain herself to him. She said she’d been the loving and doting girlfriend, and he treated her with disdain. He scoffed at her assertion. He didn’t think it was loving and doting to make jokes at his father’s expense in front of his mother and Jack. Nick accused Phyllis of rubbing her flirtation with Jack in his face. Phyllis said it wasn’t flirtation. Nick said that every time he and Phyllis had the smallest conflict, she ran to Jack. She said she went to Jack because when she and Nick weren’t playing video games or having sex, he treated her horribly. She said he pushed her away and it was like he didn’t care about her ideas or opinions. “Your opinions are always that I ignore my family or completely disengage from them and that’s not an option,” he spat. “Oh, my God, that is such a lie! I am turning myself into a pretzel helping you deal with your family,” she yelled. He argued that she asked herself to cut himself off from his family. He contended that she had no appreciation for how hard that would be for him. She ordered him not to even say that to her. She pointed out that she knew what it was like to be connected to the Newman family. Her advice came from hard-learned truths. “Being associated with single members of your family. Particularly your father so don’t you dare say that to me!,” she bellowed. She sobbed that he should have sympathy for her, but she felt like he didn’t. She said that she turned the other cheek because she wanted to be with him. “Don’t do me any favors. You pretending to be superior or taking the high road is absurd,” he shot back. “Okay, this is not gonna work. It’s over. It’s done,” she said.

Phyllis said they kept telling each other that they didn’t have to change, but she’d changed. She wanted more than sex and video games and fluffy and light. She wanted commitment, a confidant, someone who respected her. She wanted an ally. Nick said he wanted someone who didn’t hate his family. “I hate your family. But not for the reasons you think. I hate your family ‘cause you always choose them over me,” she said. He pointed out that he sided with her over Victoria in the fight for the hotel. Phyllis said she knew, and that was great. She thought it was going to be a happy ending, but it wasn’t because he was miserable because he was out of sorts with Victoria and Victor, and he was so jealous of Adam. She thought he wanted to be the golden boy and save the day. She said he’d always go back to roost, and he’d sacrifice her and their relationship because of it. She was in so much pain, and she couldn’t do this anymore. He said he knew. Jack called Phyllis, and Nick saw the name come up on her phone. He said it was perfect timing. “You say you want a confidant and an ally. Well the first sign of trouble, you always turn to [Jack],” Nick said.

After remembering the fight, Nick changed his mind about knocking on the door and walked away.

Ashland went to Victoria’s office, where she was researching the experimental treatment. He said he’d secured an evaluation appointment for the treatment, but the hitch was that he’d have to leave right now. Victoria was happy to hear about the appointment, and she intended to go with him. He wasn’t asking her to go with him. It was only an appointment to see if he was a candidate for the treatment. He said she was already shouldering most of the work at Newman/Locke. She said she wasn’t going to let him go to this evaluation on his own, let alone a trip to Peru. She thought he needed someone there to process the medical information and hold his hand. He tried to dissuade her, and she said she needed to hold his hand. He realized that he wasn’t going to be able to talk her out of going. She asked when they were leaving. Nikki walked in and was delighted because she thought they were talking about leaving on a honeymoon.

Victoria asked if she could fill Nikki in. Ashland said of course, since they were family now. Victoria said Ashland had an opportunity to try an experimental treatment, so they were jumping at the opportunity. Nikki prayed it went well. Ashland appreciated the way she and Victor accepted him. Nikki said that he was their daughter’s husband, so he was an important part of the family. Ashland said they trusted him with their daughter’s heart, and he wanted nothing more than to honor it. Victoria’s love spurred him to fight.

Adam was in his office. He made a call instructing someone to set a trap. Adam then went to Victoria’s office. He hoped she didn’t mind him stopping by. She didn’t respond or acknowledge him in any way. He had a message for Ashland. She said Ashland was on a call. He headed to the couch to wait, but she didn’t want him hanging out in her office. He said he’d text Ashland, that is, unless she’d pass along the message. Adam said he didn’t want to keep it a secret from Victoria, since she was on board with him going after ChancComm. Victoria said she didn’t care if Newman Media went after ChancComm, but she didn’t want any of the details. Adam just wanted to let Ashland know Adam set things in motion. Victoria said she’d pass that along. She mentioned that Ashland wouldn’t be here for whatever was going on, because they were leaving for South America to pursue a new cancer treatment. Adam figured that wasn’t the honeymoon Victoria had in mind. Victoria said that if this worked, it would be the best honeymoon ever. Adam hoped for the best possible outcome. Victoria said thanks. She had faith it would work. She and Ashland just started their lives together, and she refused to give up on it. Adam knew Victoria didn’t give up when she was determined. He looked forward to seeing her and Ashland at their tenth wedding anniversary party. She asked why he thought he’d be invited. He said she invited him to the wedding, so it was required. She disagreed. He felt that they were bantering, like siblings. He said maybe they could build on this almost warm vibe, but she was pretty sure this was as good as it was going to get.

Victoria and Nikki had a meeting out of the office, then Victoria gave Nikki a ride home to the main house. Victoria was going back to the office, and Nikki urged her to go home and rest instead. Nikki felt that Victoria needed to take care of herself if she wanted to be there for Ashland. Victoria thanked Nikki for looking out for her. Victoria was optimistic about Ashland’s chances with the new treatment. Victor called Nikki with the news on Chance. Nikki offered to help if she could. After the call ended, Nikki told Victoria that Chance may have been killed. Victoria felt bad for her sister, and she thought she and Nikki should go be there for Abby. Nikki said Victor and Ashley were already there, and Abby didn’t want any more visitors. There was no official confirmation on Chance, so they had to keep this private. Victoria understood.

At Society, Billy thanked Lily for insisting that they spend some time together. He discreetly scrolled through his phone, which was under the table on his knee. She noted that this was so rare, since he usually couldn’t help multitasking. He agreed with her, then she smiled and revealed that she knew he was secretly checking his phone. He laughed about being busted and said he’d try to learn to relax. They talked about Halloween. Johnny in his adorable costume, and Katie in her scary one. Lily had a sexy costume for the adults-only after-party, which was her, Billy, wine and candy that he’d swiped from his children’s stash. Lily couldn’t believe she was with someone who liked candy corn. Victoria called and asked Billy to take care of the kids while she was out of town. Billy said that was fine. He asked if this was business, because he thought the honeymoon trip wasn’t until next week. She couldn’t get into it. She thanked him for taking the kids, and the call ended.

Billy brought Lily up to speed, and she didn’t mind the kids coming over. He suggested they go home and get some adult time before the kids came. Just as they were about to leave, he saw Victor’s PI come in. Billy suggested dessert instead. The PI took a seat at the bar, which was in Billy and Lily’s earshot. “I can’t believe it. The guy’s gone missing again. He gave the slip to Newman security so we have new marching orders. Find him ASAP,” the PI said in a phone call. He sighed about losing his dinner break, and he left. Billy said that call must be about Gaines. Lily said that proved Adam and Victor didn’t do anything sinister to Gaines. Billy didn’t give them credit for that. Billy thought they should go home to talk, so they left. The PI secretly watched Billy and Lily leave. He then called Adam and said it looked like Billy took the bait. The PI asked what the next move was. Adam said they’d let Billy do what he did best – self destruct.

Billy and Lily got home, and he said that if they could find Gaines before Victor did, they’d have the ammo to stop Victor from going after ChancComm. Lily said there was no proof that finding Gaines would be anything other than a liability. Billy pointed out that Gaines had the proof that Ashland stole Camilla’s estate. Lily said that evidence could ruin Ashland and Victoria’s lives. Billy said they’d use it to blackmail Victor and Adam into leaving ChancComm alone. Lily said no. she was finished humoring Billy on this. “We’re done with Gaines,” she stated. Lily said they’d beat the Newmans by being better, smarter and savvier. They didn’t need anyone else. There was a knock at the door. It was Gaines. He was disheveled and out of breath, and he wanted Billy to hide him.

Victor and Ashley stood in the foyer and watched Sharon leave Abby’s. Victor said Sharon was a good listener, and hopefully she was able to help Abby. Ashley and Victor hated feeling so helpless. Abby was lying on the couch silently weeping. Victor quietly told Ashley that he’d called Nate to come over, just in case Abby needed a doctor. Ashley hoped that wouldn’t be necessary. Ashley thought about the time she had a break with reality, and she hoped Abby didn’t go through that too. Victor agreed, but he said that if Abby did suffer a mental break, he and Ashley would be there to help her through. Later, Nate arrived, and Victor stated that Abby was in denial. Abby and Ashley were in the kitchen making tea. Victor thought Abby might need some low dose anti anxiety pills. Victor stepped away, and Ashley and Abby returned. Abby told Nate that she didn’t need a doctor. Ashley suggested to Nate that this wasn’t a good time. Nate said that he’d been called here as a doctor, but as Abby’s friend, he’d been where she was. He said he was there to talk and check on her. He asked her to just hang out with him for a few minutes. Abby sent Ashley out of the room. Nate noted that Abby thought Chance was still out there. Abby said that she wasn’t in denial. She pointed out that no one found his body. She didn’t just think Chance was alive – she knew he was alive.

Nate talked about how hard it was to admit his fiancee was gone. Abby said that was different, because he saw Carolyn, and he knew the truth. Abby said she didn’t have that. She couldn’t think Chance was gone. Nate understood, and he thought it was common for people to feel this way after losing someone abruptly. Abby had her moments of doubt, like when Christine gave her the ring, but she saw things clearly now. Abby said nothing had changed – Chance was gone prior to this situation, and he was still gone. Chance promised he would come home, and Abby knew that he still would. She felt that she needed to have faith in her husband. Nate said he understood, and Abby ordered him to stop trying to placate her. Nate suggested that Abby was overreacting because she was running on fumes. He asked if she’d eaten. She said she had a sandwich earlier, and he was skeptical. He told her that if Chance was out there, she owed it to him and the baby to stay healthy. He asked when she last slept, and she said it didn’t matter. He ordered her some anti anxiety medication so she could rest. Abby insisted that she needed to be awake for Dominic. Ashley returned and said she’d care for the baby while Abby slept. Abby agreed to go to sleep, but only on the couch, so she could be close by in case they heard anything.

At Crimson Lights, Devon couldn’t believe Chance could be dead. Mariah thought Christine brought definitive proof that he was with the watch and ring, but Tessa pointed out that Chance might not have been wearing them when the bomb went off. Devon said that if Chance was dead, Abby would need their help accepting the truth. Mariah looked into Dominic’s stroller and told him it was too bad he had to be so brave. Tessa and Devon exchanged a concerned look. Mariah told the baby that he’d been bombarded by her stress hormones when they were locked in the room. She’d tried to stay calm, so that he wouldn’t get upset. She asked the others if they thought the baby was okay. Tessa thought he was perfect in every way, but she thought that this situation may have brought up some trauma for Mariah. Mariah appreciated the concern, but she was fine. Mariah asked Devon to back her up. Devon didn’t think Mariah could blame Tessa for looking out for her – he said Tessa was very good at it. Mariah thought Tessa was the best, and Tessa knew her better than anyone. Mariah said this wasn’t about her – it was about Dominic. Mariah didn’t want him to absorb the negative energy in the house. Devon understood, but he said they had to trust Ashley and the rest of the family to take care of Dominic. Tessa was sure the baby would be loved and cared for. Tessa said that she wouldn’t let anything bad happen to Mariah. She asked if they could go home and rest. Mariah glanced at the baby, then she said yes. Tessa smiled until Mariah added that she wasn’t ready to leave yet, because she wanted to stay with Dominic.

Devon got two texts. One from Abby saying she wanted him to bring the baby home and one from Ashley saying Nate was with Abby. Mariah asked if Devon was sure it was a good idea to take the baby home. Devon thought it was fine for Dominic to be with his mother and grandparents. Tessa agreed that Dominic belonged at home. Mariah asked Devon if he needed help taking the baby home. He didn’t. Tessa asked if she could take Mariah home now. Devon said Mariah protected Dominic when she was kidnapped, and now she could let other people take care of him. Mariah said goodbye to the baby, then she left. Cue another worried glance between Tessa and Devon.

After Mariah and Tessa left, Sharon arrived and chatted with Devon. He asked about Abby, and Sharon said the first stage of grief was denial. Sharon wished there was a way to quickly fix people, especially in times like these. There was nothing Sharon could do since Abby wouldn’t even talk about her feelings. Devon thought he had a way to cheer Sharon up. He let her spend a bit of time with Dominic, and it put a smile on her face. Devon said Dominic was magic. Sharon hoped the baby could bring some of that joy to his mom. Sharon thought Dom was lucky to have Devon, but Devon felt like he was the lucky one to have the baby in his life. Devon said that being with Dominic was like making up for things he missed out on with his child with Hilary. Sharon said that Dominic would miss out on being with Chance. “You two are a perfect match,” Sharon said of Dominic and Devon. Devon guessed so, but he wished that it didn’t have to be this way. He didn’t think it was fair that Dominic and Abby lost Chance. Sharon said Abby had to find a way to move on from Chance, which would be hard with a baby in the house. Sharon hoped the baby would give Abby a purpose, but sometimes when you went through something like that, it could be hard to get out of bed. Devon knew firsthand. He fell apart after losing Hilary. He hoped Abby didn’t go through a self destructive phase.

Mariah and Tessa went home. Mariah took a work call. After it ended, Mariah admitted that she couldn’t stop thinking about the baby. Tessa looked concerned, and Mariah commented that her girlfriend was staring at her. Tessa said she found Mariah attractive. Mariah knew that wasn’t why Tessa was staring. Mariah promised she was fighting all her urges when it came to the baby. Tessa was worried because it seemed like Mariah thought she was the only one who thought she could properly take care of Dominic. Mariah thought that Tessa understood she had a bond with Dominic. Tessa did understand, but she was concerned that Mariah’s instinct to shield Dominic from danger was going to cause Mariah pain.

Tessa asked if that was too much honesty. Mariah said no. “I needed to know if I was reverting back with the baby. And I guess I was,” Mariah said. Tessa guessed she shouldn’t worry, but she was. Mariah loved Tessa for that. Tessa asked if Mariah really did think she was the only one who could properly take care of Dominic. Mariah couldn’t say for sure. She recognized that other people were qualified to take care of him. Tessa sensed that Mariah thought her connection with Dominic counted for more. Mariah said she was the one who carried Dominic and felt him grow and change inside her, and she was locked with him in a room. Tessa said that would give Mariah a lifelong bond with Dominic, but other people had special connections to Dominic too. Mariah understood that Abby was Dominic’s mother, but Abby needed a break. She also acknowledged that Devon contributed to Dominic coming into the world, but she said that it wasn’t the same as her contribution. She knew Ashley and Nina loved their grandson, but she didn’t know if they could love him the way Mariah did. Tessa said that wasn’t Mariah’s call to make. Mariah knew it was Abby’s choice, even if Abby wasn’t in the best frame of mind to make decisions right now. Tessa said that wasn’t for Mariah to judge. Tessa said that even if Abby wasn’t 100%, Dominic wouldn’t be neglected. Mariah knew other people were qualified to take care of Dominic, but in her heart, she didn’t think that was the way it should be.

Tessa asked if Mariah was saying Dominic would rather have her take care of him. Mariah wasn’t saying that. She was just saying she had feelings. She knew Tessa and Devon were worried about her attachment to the baby. Mariah said she wasn’t even thinking about what she wanted or needed, she was thinking about Dominic. She said Dominic lost a father he’d never known, and he was living in a hose full of grief and trauma. Tessa said Dominic was loved and cared for. Mariah said this wasn’t the life she promised Dominic when they were locked in the room together. Tessa said life was unpredictable and Mariah couldn’t control the future. Mariah felt like she could keep Dominic safe. Tessa said there was nothing Mariah could do about Dominic’s father dying unexpectedly. Mariah felt like she’d failed, because she didn’t protect Dominic.

Mariah said she agreed to be a surrogate because she thought she was helping build a family – a mother, father and baby. Now the baby was surrounded by grief and loss, and Mariah felt like she didn’t keep her promise to protect him. Tessa said that Mariah went above and beyond for Dominic. Mariah said she was Dominic’s godmother, and she couldn’t even be there for him the way she should be, because she was not his… Tessa asked if Mariah wished Dominic was her son wand not Abby’s. Mariah admitted she felt like she should be Dominic’s mom. Tessa didn’t know what to say. Mariah said she wasn’t acting on the feeling, and she knew it was fear talking. Mariah just wanted to be honest. Mariah knew it wasn’t right to feel that way, but it was a fleeting thought that came into her head once in awhile. Tessa thought they should examine this and figure out how to proceed. Mariah was caught off guard, because she thought Tessa was going to run screaming for the hills. Tessa said never. Tessa loved Mariah, and they were going to work through this together. Mariah loved Tessa too. Jabot called, and Mariah put the talk off because she needed to work. Tessa asked if Jabot could wait, but Mariah promised it’d only take a few minutes. Mariah got on her computer, and a worried Tessa paced with tears in her eyes.

Back at the Chancellor house, Abby finally ate, and she decided to take the medication once it arrived and take a nap. She was so tired that she thought she’d be able to rest even without the pills. Nate understood how much Chance meant to Abby. Nate said that when he and Abby were together, she made it clear that she didn’t want anything serious because her prior relationship fell apart. Nate saw Abby fall hard and fast for Chance, and he saw that the love was still there. Abby said that Nate was speaking like Chance was gone, and they didn’t know that. He said that was his mistake. Nate left. Abby held Chance’s ring and said that he couldn’t be gone.

Nate went to Crimson Lights and told Sharon and Devon that he just saw Abby. They all talked about their concern for Abby. Devon asked what Nate thought of taking Dominic home. Devon expressed concern about Dominic absorbing negative energy. Nate thought it would be good for Abby to see her son, and there were other people around to take care of the baby if Abby got emotional. Devon decided to take Dominic for a walk in the park before he took him home. After Devon and the baby left, Sharon looked at an old photo of Cassie.

Victor urged Ashley to rest, but she decided to go make some food to keep busy, and she asked him to watch over Abby. Abby was lying on the couch. She drifted off to sleep and had a dream. She was alone in the darkened mansion staring at her phone. She said she knew Chance wouldn’t leave her alone, so she’d find him. Abby teleported from the mansion and appeared in the Grand Phoenix lobby, in a neon blue ball of light. Abby remembered that this was when she first saw Chance after he returned to town. He fell into her life during the hostage crisis. She recalled that he wanted her to help him distract the bad guy. It had been terrifying and thrilling. She told Chance that she needed him to show her that they were in this together.

Abby recorded herself talking to Chance on her phone. She recounted the moment when he busted her for faking the theft at The Grand Phoenix. She said he caught her red handed, but they had chemistry, and it was fun, flirtatious and sexy. They’d agreed that they’d make great partners. She hired him as head of security to keep him from working dangerous cases. She was adamant that he was supposed to leave the danger behind and stay in Genoa City with her. The blue light returned and enveloped Abby. The light deposited Abby at Society, where she and Chance had their first kiss. She said she and Chance had been so good together. She cried and asked Chance to come kiss her now. The light transported Abby to the hotel suite where she and Chance first made love. She remembered that they laid in bed all day and traded stories about their scars. All of his were from cases. She was upset that he’d gone back to that dangerous job.

Abby said that she and Chance made vows and talked about their future and a family. She asked how he could just leave her and have her go through with a surrogacy. She knew he was too good and too honest for it to end this way. She knew something was keeping him from coming home. She vowed to find him. Abby ended up at the park, where she first told Chance he loved him and where he proposed to her. She saw the Baby’s first Christmas ornament Chance gave her on a bush at the park. She asked how he could leave her knowing he might not come home. Didn’t he love her enough to stay? “I believed in you, Chance. I believed in us. I don’t know what to believe now,” she said.

Back in real life, Devon took Dominic to the same park that Abby was visiting in her dream.

Abby jolted awake when she heard Dominic crying. Devon had just brought him home. Abby picked him up and held him close.

Nikki and Jack ran into each other at Crimson Lights. He congratulated her on the great job she did at the wedding. They were praying Ashland’s treatments were effective, so that Victoria and Harrison wouldn’t lose him. Nikki had reservations about the pairing at first. Jack assumed that was because of Ashland’s well-deserved reputation as a ruthless businessman, which Jack got a taste of when Ashland went after Jabot. Nikki thought Ashland appeared to be completely devoted to Victoria, which was something that had been lacking in her life. Nikki thought Victoria was being a realist about Ashland’s prognosis. Jack respected that courage. He said nothing was more important than the time spent with those you loved, even if that time was fleeting. With all the whirl of wedding prep and the merger, Nikki wasn’t sure Victoria had the time to really sit and think about what could happen, but it would hit her eventually, and Nikki dreaded it.

Nikki had to get back to the office. Jack tried to convince her to go have a proper lunch with him instead. He wanted to go to this Moroccan place. He said they’d just pulled off one of the most satisfying feats of parenting – launching their children into fulfilling marriages. She wasn’t sure they could take credit for that. He said they could celebrate their good fortune. She agreed to lunch, but she asked to go to Society instead, since that was closer to work. He agreed. He helped her into her jacket, and they left.

Victor, Devon, Mariah and Christine were with Abby at her home. Victor asked if the ring Christine brought was Chance’s. Abby collapsed into her father’s arms. Victor helped Abby into a chair, and Mariah wrapped an arm around her friend. Abby said this couldn’t be real – there must be some explanation. Ashley arrived, and Christine and Victor brought her up to speed. Ashley asked if they’d found anything. Christine explained that, given the force of the explosion, it was going to take time to identify all the remains. Ashley rushed over to Abby and hugged her. At that moment, Dominic started crying, and Abby picked him up and tried to soothe him. Devon now had Dominic, and Ashley asked everyone to give Abby space. Devon said he’d take Dominic for a walk, and Mariah said she’d go too. Abby didn’t want Dominic to go. Ashley said that little boy was loved, and they’d take good care of him, just like she and Victor would take good care of Abby. Devon promised they wouldn’t be gone long. Abby relented.

Victor walked Christine to the door, and they agreed to keep each other updated. He asked if she was going to inform Nina, and she said yes. She knew it’d be rough, since Chance was the light of Nina’s life. Victor had been glad to call Chance his son in law. Christine was sorry for Victor’s loss. They hugged, and she left. Ashley told Abby they could lie down together like they did when she was little. Abby didn’t want to. Ashley told Abby that everyone was gone now, so she could let it all out. Ashley asked what Abby needed. Abby said she needed her husband, and Ashley hugged her. Abby held the ring and said if Chance was gone, she’d feel it. She asked if Nina knew, and Victor said Christine was going to call her. Abby said Chance was Nina’s baby, and just like Abby felt about Dominic.

Sharon showed up at the Chancellor house and told Victor that Mariah texted saying Chance may have been killed. Victor said the place Chance was staying was blown to smithereens, and the only things left were person effects. Ashley joined Sharon and Victor. Ashley said Abby was in shock, and Ashley wasn’t sure Abby registered anything people were saying. Victor said Sharon had been enormously supportive when Victoria was attacked. Ashley wasn’t sure Abby would be receptive, but she said Sharon was welcome to try.

Sharon went to Abby and offered to listen. Abby said if she opened that door, she might start screaming and never stop. She couldn’t fall apart because had a baby to take care of – Chance was counting on her. Sharon didn’t think Abby would fall apart. Sharon said Abby had suffered some really horrible losses, and she survived – Brad, Colleen. “My baby girl,” Abby added. Abby said Chance helped her through that and convinced her to have hope that she could be a mother and they could have a long happy life. She started crying.

Abby hated that she couldn’t control her emotions. Sharon said it was fine. Abby said when Christine brought her the wedding ring, Abby lost it in front of everyone, including the baby. She thought about what Chance must’ve felt like, terrified and suffering. She felt like she was falling. Sharon said that was a normal reaction. Abby asked how to go on without her husband. Her son would never meet his father. Victor started doing something on his phone, and he told Ashley that he was getting Abby support.

Mariah, Tessa, Devon and the baby were at Crimson Lights. Mariah and Tessa were talking about what it must be like to have the person you loved ripped away in an instant, when Tessa realized they were being insensitive to Devon. Tessa apologized and acknowledged that Devon knew exactly what Abby was going through. Devon said Tessa wasn’t being insensitive. He said he did know what Abby was feeling, and it wasn’t something he’d wish on anyone. He talked about grief, which he’d only survived with the support of his family and friends, and eventually Elena. Tessa was thankful Devon survived and found happiness. She said they had to have Faith that Abby would get there too. Devon said things weren’t going to be easy for Abby. Mariah said itw wouldn’t be easy for Dominic either. She said Abby’s emotions affected the baby. She wondered what kind of impact the stress would have on him. Devon hoped Dominic would become Abby’s source of comfort and her reason to get out of bed. Mariah said maybe, but they didn’t know. She said people react to trauma in different ways. Tessa said Sharon could let them know if there was cause for concern.

Adam ran into Sally and said hi. She wondered if he’d be friendly funny down to earth Adam today, or officious Adam, busy CEO who had no time to waste on a peon like her. He admitted that he’d been too abrupt yesterday, though he’d already apologized. She commented that mea culpa Adam was an intriguing new addition to the cast of characters. He thought that seemed fascinating. She invited him to lunch. He wished he could, but he was all booked up, and he was here for a meeting. He hoped she wasn’t taking this personally. She said that this was just a game to her, and she was going for best three out of five. Then she realized this may have been her third rejection. He said it wasn’t, because they agreed to keep things professional. She teased that she was glad, because she wouldn’t get saddled with his chronic mood swings. He wished he could have lunch with her, because that would be more entertaining than the person he was meeting with. She suggested he cancel, but he couldn’t. She asked who he was meeting with. They bantered, and he wouldn’t tell her who he was seeing. She tried guessing, and he kept it vague. She told him he was good at being mysterious. She wondered if this had something to do with that missing man Billy mentioned – Gaines. “Oops. Guess I wasn’t supposed to bring his name up anymore,” she said, when his smile faded.

Adam noticed Sally ordered her food to go, and he hoped that wasn’t on his account. She said she was planning to work through lunch anyway. She told him about all the inquiries she was getting from people who wanted a wedding dress like Victoria’s. She took it as a sign that she was right not to give up on her endeavors. Speaking for Newman Fashions, Adam was looking forward to seeing what Sally and Chloe came up with next. Sally asked if Chelsea would be joining them at the company. Adam didn’t know when or if Chelsea would be up to working again. Sally asked if she shouldn’t have brought that up, Adam said it was fine. He hoped Chelsea returned and picked up her life again. The private investigator arrived, and Sally told him to have fun with his not-at-all-mysterious meeting.

Nick and Phyllis were in her suite. He repeated his question – were they in this together or not? She was thrown that he even had to ask her that. She thought it was clear that she was in this with him, since she was working so hard. She thought that, thought it didn’t feel good now, it’d turn out good in the end. She asked to put this on hold, since she was feeling hungover. He said yeah. He offered to take her out to lunch, since theirs was cold, and she said thanks. She went into the bathroom and stared in the mirror.

Phyllis and Nick went to Society. Nick noticed that Adam was across the room with one of Victor’s most trusted private investigators. Nick observed their body language and concluded that Adam and the P.I. were scheming about something. “Mm-hmm,” Phyllis replied, and Nick asked what that meant. She told him he knew what it meant. She wasn’t going to comment on this situation, because she didn’t want to continue the pattern where she said something supportive, and he misinterpreted it, then they argued. He didn’t want her to feel like she was on eggshells around him. He wanted her unvarnished opinion. She told him to remember that he’d said this. She asked who cared what Adam was up to. She asked if he could let it go and focus on their relationship. Nick reminded Phyllis that he asked her to back off Tara and Sally, and she ended up being right about them. She argued that it wasn’t the same thing, since she was protecting Summer. She asked who cared what Adam and Victor were plotting. He didn’t look at it that way. She wished he’d protect himself and stay out of it. She didn’t expect him to take this advice, but this was how she felt. He’d tried staying out of it more times than he could count, but things always blew up into a massive crisis, and he’d get sucked back in so he could protect the people he loved – his sisters, mother and children. He theorized that it was best to try and avert this mess now instead of waiting for the other shoe to drop. She didn’t think that was best. She’d be happy if, between disasters, he put more attention on their relationship. He suggested they go eat lunch somewhere else.

Just as Phyllis and Nick were about to leave, Jack and Nikki showed up. Nick explained that they were leaving because he didn’t want to be around Adam. Nikki extended an invitation to join them for lunch instead. Phyllis asked if she was included in the invite. She wasn’t sure because of their history. Nikki said they got along in Italy. Nikki was hoping to convince Nick to reconcile with Victoria, and Nikki thought she’d have a better chance at with Phyllis’s support. Nick said he and Phyllis had to talk about some stuff, so he declined. Just as he said this, Phyllis said she’d love it if he reconciled with his sister, so she accepted the invitation.

At their table, Nikki and Nick looked over at Adam and the PI. Jack asked who that was. Nick said that was a PI that Victor had on retainer. He was sure the PI and Adam were talking about Jesse Gaines and his current whereabouts. Jack asked who that was. Nikki only said it was someone Ashland used to know. Nick added that Gaines despised Ashland, and Nick locked him into a room to stop him from disrupting the wedding. Jack had no idea all this happened at the wedding. Nikki didn’t know about it at the time either. She knew very little now, and that suited her just fine. Nick said Gaines hadn’t been seen in days – Victor had Adam take care of him somehow. Jack asked what that meant, and Phyllis said nobody knew. Nikki said that Victor found some compromising information on Gaines and used it to convince him to leave Ashland alone. Jack said that was classic Victor. Phyllis pointedly told Jack that he should be glad he wasn’t involved. Nick got the message and asked Phyllis to drop it. Adam and the PI finished their meeting. Adam nodded at Nikki on his way out. Jack changed the subject and said he was playing an online game with Harrison. Since Nick and Phyllis were gaming experts, Jack asked if they had more recommendations. The tension between Nick and Phyllis was still there, but he asked he about that game she played with Christian. She didn’t know the name, but she said she’d look online. She lied and said she got a message from the hotel manager, and she had to go.

Phyllis left. Nikki asked if everything was okay with Nick and Phyllis. Nick said they were fine. Jack excused himself too. Nikki didn’t meant to pry, but she’d noticed the tension. Nick changed the subject to Jesse Gaines. He thought it’d be a real mistake to look the other way. Nikki said this was behind them. Nick was skeptical, since Adam was meeting with the PI. Nick said Victor was keeping him on the outside of this, but Nikki would be able to find out the details. Nikki didn’t want to be involved. Nick said Nikki was leaving Victoria’s well being in the hands of Victor and Adam. He asked if she was comfortable with that, given Adam’s history.

Nick left, and Jack returned. Nikki hoped Jack didn’t take Nick and Phyllis’s insinuations about Gaines seriously. She said obviously, no harm could’ve come to Gaines. She thought Nick and Phyllis were being over-dramatic. Jack felt for Nick, who wasn’t getting along with Victor, Victoria, or Adam. “Or Phyllis, apparently,” Jack added. Nikki asked what Jack knew. He didn’t think he should say much. He said that Nick and Phyllis hit a bump in the road, but they’d figure it out.

Nick went to the hotel and told Phyllis that he still owed her lunch. She said he didn’t owe her anything. “I knew what I signed up for. I knew your family history. It didn’t matter to me because I love you and the whole thing is worth it. It was worth it,” she said. “You’re right, it was.” he replied. “Who are we kidding? This isn’t gonna work,” she said.

When Adam got to work, Sally walked in and asked how his meeting was. It was tedious. He asked about her lunch. She said it was productive. She showed him her phone. The National Inquisitor got photos of Sally and Adam and insinuated that they were together. He wasn’t surprised. She just wanted to give him a head’s up. Just as Adam said everything was fine, Chelsea called. Sally left, and Adam declined the call.

Devon and Amanda were at home. He hadn’t heard anything from Abby, and he was worried about her and what it’d do to her if Chance died. Amanda said not to jump to the worst case scenario. She said Chance was smart and savvy, and she pointed out that he helped nail Colin when he tried to steal Devon’s inheritance. Devon didn’t understand why Chance would bring a personally engraved watch on a dangerous mission and risk blowing his cover. Amanda noted that the watch was in the safe house – Chance didn’t have it on him. Devon countered that it made no sense for Chance to have it at all. It was a big risk to take, especially when you had a family to come home to. He said Abby was living through a nightmare, and the only thing keeping her going was the belief that her husband was coming home to her. If that was taken away, Abby would need a lot of support from the people who loved her. Amanda said Abby would get it.

Devon asked Amanda about Sutton’s trial. Devon wasn’t happy that Michael was trying to pressure Amanda to take the stand. She said she decided to testify. Devon was worried. He thought Michael could win without putting her on the stand. She agreed, but she had to do this because Sutton killed her father. She had to tell Sutton to his face that she knew what he did. Devon was sure Amanda thought this through, so he supported her 100%. She called him the nicest guy on the planet. He said he was no saint. He admitted he was unjustifiably angry with Chance. Devon said Chance put Abby through hell. Devon knew it wasn’t fair of him to say that, though. He hoped Chance was safe, and if he came home, Devon was going to let Chance know how he felt. Amanda told Devon that he was a really good man. She knew he was worried, so she encouraged him to check on Abby and the baby.

Mariah and Tessa were on a walk in the park. Mariah had texted Abby, and she didn’t reply. Mariah thought about Abby and poor little Bowie possibly losing Chance. Tessa thought they should follow Abby’s lead and stay positive. Mariah said that Abby was so fervent in her belief that Chance was still alive that it was running her ragged, and it was having an effect on Bowie’s emotional state. Mariah could tell. Tessa was worried about Mariah’s attachment to the baby. Mariah told Tessa to relax. Mariah thought that, since she was worried for Abby, it was natural that her thoughts drifted to the baby. The possibility that Chance was gone put things into perspective for Mariah and made her appreciate the gifts she had in her life, like Tessa. Noah jogged up and said hello. Mariah got a text. Tessa asked if it was Abby. Mariah said it was work, so she left to handle it. Noah asked what was going on with Abby, and he asked if he should call her. Tessa said not to bother Abby. She figured Noah should know this since it was about his family.

Noah felt bad for Abby and wished there was something he could do to help. Tess asked Noah not to tell the rest of his family what was going on, since Abby wanted space. He asked if anyone in his family knew, and Tessa said his grandfather did. Tessa thought Abby felt that accepting sympathy would make the situation worse. Noah said Newmans didn’t accept help unless it was forced on them, usually by another Newman. He assumed this must be especially hard on Mariah, because of the baby, not to mention how hard it was on Tessa.

Victor knocked on Abby’s door, and when he didn’t get an answer, he walked in, since the door was unlocked. She was in the living room with her headphones on, and she said she’d been trying to do relaxation exercises. He didn’t have any news on Chance. He insisted that she get a snack to keep her strength up, and he told her to make sure she kept the front door locked. He asked where Ashley was, and Abby said she sent her home to rest. Abby hadn’t heard from Christine, so she’d been doing her own research. She found an explosion in Valencia, Spain. There was nothing on survivors or victims. The reports said it was a gas leak, but Christine said it was a bomb. Abby didn’t care how it happened, she just needed to know her husband was alive. Victor had news. When Abby asked why he didn’t say anything sooner, he said he’d wanted her to eat first. According to Victor, Christine was right. Someone found out Chance and his colleagues were using that place as a safe house, and they bombed it. Abby asserted that Chance was likely laying low to protect his colleagues. Victor said the State Department was looking into this. Four of Chance’s colleagues were classified as “killed in the line of duty.” Abby was adamant that Chance was not in that building. She said he’d come home when the coast was clear.

Victor asked if Nina had been told. Abby wanted to tell Nina, but Christine had insisted on handling it. Abby assumed that Christine was waiting for confirmation instead of putting Chance’s mother through what they’d all been going through. Victor didn’t think Nina should be kept in the dark, and Abby agreed. He offered to call Nina, but Abby said she’d call Christine and tell her that she needed to let Nina know. Abby thought that Christine needed to be the one to break the news to her best friend. Abby said they needed to stay positive. Abby and Victor hugged, and he promised he’d always be there for her.

Abby left the room to make the call. When she came back, Victor had Dominic. Abby was crying, and she didn’t think she should be around the baby like this, so she left the house. Mariah arrived just as Abby ran out. Victor handed the baby to Mariah and went after his daughter. Devon came to see Abby and found Mariah and Dominic. She told him what little she knew – that Abby ran out, and Victor followed her. Mariah said she went to work for a little bit, then she felt compelled to come here. He said that if the worst happened, it’d take all their support to help Abby get through this. He said he could watch the baby if she needed to go to work. She said she couldn’t focus on work right now. She needed to be here in case something happened. It felt like it was part of the pact they made when she became a surrogate. Christine showed up.

Abby went to the park and talked to Chance. She said she’d hold onto to the promises he made the day he proposed. She knew he’d never break his word. Victor caught up with Abby. She apologized. She felt like a fool sitting in the park talking to herself. She said she couldn’t fall apart in front of Dominic, because he was so sensitive to her emotional state. Victor said Dominic was a strong boy, and he’d be alright. Abby knew Chance was alive, so she didn’t know why she was falling apart. Victor thought Abby was rightfully upset. He told her she could always lean on him. They hugged.

Abby and Victor went back to the house. Abby didn’t want to be coddled, so she just wanted to know why Christine was there. Christine had Chance’s wedding ring, which had been found at the site of the explosion. Victor said that Chance wouldn’t have been wearing that when he was undercover. Christine thought so too at first, but she’d learned that Chance had gone developed a cover story about being a married businessman, and he’d worn the ring. Evidently, Chance never wanted to take off the ring. Christine asked Abby if it belonged to Chance. Abby took the ring and burst into tears.

Nick was in Phyllis’s room. He had the table set with all her favorite breakfast foods. He wanted to share a meal and then have a real talk so they could get past this. She was willing to give it a try. He noted that they were in a similar place a year ago – holed up in this room, dissecting their relationship and trying to figure out where it was going. He didn’t regret the past year and a half. She didn’t either, but something was off. She felt like they were going backwards. She asked how they could get back to where things were good. He thought they should start with an apology. She didn’t think she had anything to apologize for. He meant that he needed to say sorry to her.

Nick was sorry things were so brittle in Italy. Phyllis said Milan was fun. He agreed that Summer’s wedding was a blast, but Victoria’s wasn’t. He admitted he took his family issues out on Phyllis. He wished he’d never let his family get to him. She felt that they’d been out of sync for awhile. She couldn’t pinpoint exactly when that happened, but she guessed it was around the time she went after Sally and Tara for what they did to Summer. She said that all he’d done was keep giving her warnings. He replied that he eventually supported her, but he’d been concerned she was going to go overboard. She stated that going overboard was in her DNA, and she didn’t get why he’d tell her not to. He never meant to make her feel like she couldn’t be herself. He was nervous Summer would get hurt or that Phyllis would get in trouble. He’d tried to be the voice of reason. She said they knew each other too well, and there were profound differences between them. He agreed. She said he had to know she was going to go after Sally and Tara. She felt that it was going against who she was for him to tell her to stop. It was almost hurtful to her. Nick stated Phyllis knew how much family meant to him. He was very involved in Victoria, Nikki and sometimes Victor’s lives. He wasn’t proud of that, but it was who he was. He said she took issue with that in Italy. “Do you honestly think that was productive?,” he asked.

Phyllis noted that Nick sounded mad. He said he wasn’t. She said he was mad in Tuscany. She said they had little grievances that they didn’t deal with, and when things turned into big issues, they fixed it by hopping into bed. He admitted that was accurate, and he was amazed that method worked so long. She thought they had to do things differently. She asked if they’d been taking each other for granted for the past year and a half. He said he always appreciated her. She thought he liked her fun frothy side, and she thought there were parts of her personality that he wasn’t fond of. They noted that they’d had this same conversation a year ago, and they’d agreed to accept each other for who they were. “Right now we’re arguing about not allowing either one of us to be ourselves,” she said. He didn’t think it was possible to love every single thing about a person. No matter how good of a match you were, there would be aspects of a person that you didn’t care for. Phyllis thought that made sense for little things, but she said they were talking about huge chunks of each other’s personalities that they weren’t fond of. He said it never seemed to matter until right now. She asked if he’d always be close to his family, and he said yes. Phyllis knew Nick would reconcile with his family, and the Newmans would be sitting around having Thanksgiving dinner like nothing ever happened. “You’re never gonna change. Your family’s never gonna change. I’m never gonna change,” she said. She asked if they’d just been ignoring and skating around their issues.

Nick thought they were being honest with each other, not fooling themselves. He knew they had issues, but he was trying hard to see things from her vantage point. Phyllis knew he was, and she appreciated that. She said she wasn’t trying to self-sabotage or destroy the relationship. He thought it said a lot that they were trying to work through this. He said that, despite their differences, they meshed. It was a push-pull relationship, and the pull was that they loved each other, he stated. Phyllis was looking at the big picture, and usually the good outweighed the bad, but lately… Nick thought what truly mattered was that they loved each other and they were happy. She asked if he was truly happy. He inferred that she was asking this because she wasn’t happy. It hurt Phyllis to admit this, but she wasn’t happy, and she thought if Nick was honest with himself, he’d say the same thing.

Nick tensed and asked Phyllis not to put words in his mouth. He respected her feelings, and he wanted her to respect his too. He didn’t want her to make him feel like he wasn’t being honest. She said she wasn’t saying he wasn’t being honest with her or with himself. He felt like she was either accusing him of being dishonest, or she was saying he wasn’t smart enough to understand his feelings. She denied saying this. He said they’d been having miscommunications, but all that mattered was their relationship, and what they had was amazing. He said they were a lot more than video games and hot sex. She agreed. He mentioned that people said what Phyllis and Nick had was easy and comfortable, and he disagreed. She asked who said that. He didn’t think it mattered, but she thought it did. She asked who he went to for advice on their relationship. He said he didn’t need other people’s opinions, because they weren’t helping. Especially when they were coming from someone like Jack, who was waiting in the wings for her.

Phyllis was adamant that their issues had nothing to do with Jack, who was just a friend. Nick noted that Jack declared his love for her. “Who cares,” Phyllis asked. She pointed out that Jack wanted the best for them. Nick didn’t think Phyllis should be running to Jack every time she had a problem. She denied doing this. She said Jack was a friend, and he’d helped her. “Because he knows you so much better than I do,” Nick grumbled. Phyllis thought they were getting off topic; this conversation was supposed to be about them, but now all of a sudden they were talking about Jack and whoever was whispering in Nick’s ear about the relationship. “This is about us and nobody else,” she said. He asked if they were together in this or not.

Nick went to Phyllis’s suite and found the remnants of a romantic meal for two. One full plate of food was left, but both glasses of champagne were finished. He didn’t know she had something romantic planned last night. She thought his text yesterday was dismissive. She understood that Christian was sick and that he came first, but she felt blown off. He said that wasn’t his intention, and she said that was his instinct. He was ready to talk, but she was too busy and hungover for that. She left.

When Phyllis got downstairs, she ran into Jack. He was there for a breakfast appointment that got canceled. She told him she tried and failed to make progress with Nick. She felt like her relationship was crashing. She suggested she was blowing things out of proportion, so he offered to lend an ear and help her get some perspective. Jack went to the lounge while Phyllis got their coffee. Nick came downstairs and noted that Phyllis had time for coffee with Jack but she didn’t have time to talk with Nick. She said she was frustrated and angry, and she thought Jack could calm her down. He commented that she was angry at the text, and she clarified that it wasn’t just that, it was also the argument they had yesterday. She went through the trouble to arrange the romantic dinner which ended in her drinking a bunch of champagne alone. She knew overindulging was a mistake. He said he wasn’t judging. “That’s shocking because you usually would. That’s why I felt the need to criticize myself before you had a chance to,” she said. He was sorry he made her feel like that. She said she was just hurt and angry, and she felt like they were out of sync. He thought that not talking was making the problem worse. She said she just needed some space before she said the wrong thing. He understood. He guessed they both let their emotions get the better of them. He said she ad nothing to be scared of. He looked over at Jack, then he left.

Phyllis went to Jack and asked if they could get out of here. He took her to the park. She was sorry she kept dumping her stuff on him. He didn’t want her feeling bad about turning to a friend. She told him what happened last night. She wasn’t sure that Nick was telling the truth about Christian needing him. Jack asked if Phyllis thought Nick would use his son as an excuse not to talk to her. She didn’t know anymore. She just knew that the turmoil with Nick’s family seemed to be bringing out issues in his relationship with her. Jack asked if Phyllis could articulate those issues to Nick and to herself. “No. I don’t even know what they are,” she admitted. She knew that yesterday, Nick was just as frustrated with her as she was with him, then he showed up this morning like there was no problem and it was just a bump in the road. She said it wasn’t a bump in the road – she and Nick weren’t okay. She said she wasn’t okay, and she didn’t live in denial. She didn’t know what was happening with her and Nick, but none of it was okay.

Phyllis said Nick was going through so much with his family, and he didn’t want to hear the truth. Jack suggested that Phyllis’s truth wasn’t the same as Nick’s truth. He noted that when things got tough with her father, she cut ties with her whole family. She bristled at him bringing up her dad right now. She said she left the family because her father was a horrible man who stole from the elderly. He knew that, but he suggested that, deep down inside, she wanted Nick to make the same decision she made, even though she knew history had proven he couldn’t. Jack thought maybe Phyllis was holding Nick’s choice against him because he made a different one than she did. She was unhappy with the insinuation that she was responsible for this. He clarified that he wasn’t blaming her. He said there were complicated dynamics involved, where Nick, Phyllis and the Newmans were concerned. Jack was sure Nick would agree that he hadn’t been his best. Over the years, Jack had noticed that when Phyllis’s back was up and she was insecure about her ability to solve a problem, she tended to look for an exit strategy. She asked if he was saying she blew up her relationships instead of seeing if they could work out. She asked if he was saying she was her own worst enemy. He said he’d hate for her to fall victim to a self fulfilling prophecy. He added that she and Nick had been through so much, yet they were perpetually drawn back together. Jack thought there was a reason for that. Phyllis added that there was a reason things didn’t work out.

Victoria and Ashland were at her office. She’d called the oncologist, and he’d contacted one of his doctors from NY for a second opinion. She got another text from Billy, who wanted to meet, and she ignored it. Nate had been contacted. When he arrived, Ashland showed him the test results. The chemo wasn’t effective. Victoria said they weren’t giving up hope. Ashland’s oncologist wanted to continue the current protocol, but Ashland didn’t think it was worth it. He would endure the side effects if he was making progress, but since he wasn’t, he thought it was time to change tactics. Victoria said they were researching some experimental treatments, and they wanted Nate’s take on it. Ashland put his arm around Victoria and said he had something to fight for.

Nate was happy to look into the treatment and give his opinion, but he did think that the oncologist was the person they should be talking to about the next step. Victoria said they weren’t happy with the oncologist, because he was close-minded about the options, and he didn’t listen to Ashland’s concerns. Nate said that sometimes a doctor wasn’t a good fit, and it was a good idea to get another opinion. Ashland appreciated that, and he appreciated Nate’s friendship. Nate said to email him the information about the Peruvian treatment, and he’d get back to them ASAP. He left. In the hallway, Nate looked glum. Back inside, Victoria was glad that Nate was going to look into this for them. Ashland noticed that Nate didn’t seem enthusiastic about the study, but Victoria figured that was just because he hadn’t read about it yet. Ashland said that before he decided to seek treatment, he was at peace with his fate. Victoria noted that it took a lot of work on her part to convince him to get help. He was glad that he did get treatment, and he hated the chance of giving up not being with her. But what if this was a battle he couldn’t win?

For awhile, Ashland was focused on wedding plans and praying Victoria would forgive him. Now they were married, and the harsh reality of his condition was staring him in the face. None of his power, money or influence could get him out of this. Maybe nothing would work. Victoria refused to accept that. She said statistically, some people had bought themselves more time and even beaten the cancer. He was scared because the odds weren’t in his favor. She asked when he started caring about odds – he’d beaten odds his entire life. She told him he’d better damn well fight this, like he promised he would. He felt like no one ever had as much faith in him as she did. She knew he’d have vulnerable moments, and she vowed to be strong for both of them. She said they couldn’t give up on their future. Ashland took Victoria’s hands and said message received. “When Victoria Newman orders you to fight, you fight,” he said. She was glad they understood each other. She believed in the power of a positive mental outlook. She knew it probably wouldn’t cure cancer, but it might help things. He said if Nate thought the protocol was worthwhile, that gave them another reason to be optimistic, but if the treatment looked like a good idea, they’d have to cancel their island getaway. She was fine with that. He said she deserved a beautiful honeymoon, and he was looking forward to shutting out the world and just being newlyweds. She just wanted him to get better, and they weren’t going to let anything stand in the way.

Noah went to work with Sharon, because he wanted to spend time with her. He loved the upgrades she’d made to Crimson Lights, though he noted that she’d kept the Gatsby-esque eye decoration. She wanted there to be a familiarity and warmth so that his place felt like home. He couldn’t believe how much Faith had grown up. Sharon said that Faith was starting to date. Noah heard Moses was a good guy. Sharon said he was. Noah was willing to play the opposing big brother if necessary, though. Sharon asked how long Noah was staying. He wasn’t sure. Elena walked in, and she was drained from working a lot and jet lagged from Italy. Sharon went to serve up an energy boost, and Elena told Noah it was good to see him. Elena wanted to order a pastry, but Sharon said the delivery was running late. Elena took her drink and left. Noah asked if Elena was a regular. Sharon explained that Elena lived in the apartment upstairs, where Lola used to live before she went to Miami. Noah was surprised because he assumed that Elena lived with Nate. He understood that couples needed separate spaces. Sharon wondered if this observation had something to do with what happened in London.

Noah commented that Sharon was determined to get the story. Sharon said she and Nick just wanted to know what was with Noah’s abrupt return. Of course they were thrilled to have him here though. He said he was in a relationship that was serious, at least for him, and he got his heart broken. He promised everything would be okay. He wanted to leave it at that instead of a doing a deep dive into a relationship with his mom. She asked if that was the only reason he left England. He said he really did feel like he was in a professional and artistic rut, and coming home seemed like the right choice. She jokingly told him that she heard that deep cleaning an espresso machine was a great way to get out of a rut.

Elena went to Society and Nate ran into her there. He wished he knew she’d be there, because he would’ve joined her. She knew he was busy meeting with Ashland and Victoria. He brought her up to speed on what happened at Newman. He said this wasn’t a typical medical consult – Ashland wasn’t a patient, he was a friend. Nate was personally invested in this, so he couldn’t maintain the usual degree of professional distance. He was worried that he wouldn’t be able to give the couple good news. She said that Ashland and Victoria asked Nate to help because they knew he could give it to them straight – they weren’t expecting him to perform a miracle. He wished he could save Ashland. Elena said all he had to do was read the study and give them the facts so they could make an informed decision. Nate was grateful to be with someone who understood. She yawned, and he said he’d take her home and tuck her in.

Nate went to Crimson Lights and sat on the patio. He called Ashland, who put Nate on speaker. Nate said there had been some promising research into this treatment, but it was a last resort. The chances of improvement were slim. He knew that wasn’t what Ashland and Victoria wanted to hear. Ashland was willing to do or try anything.

Nick showed up at Crimson Lights, and Noah could tell he wasn’t okay. He asked if things were worse between him and Phyllis. Nick changed the subject and said he hadn’t seen Victoria. Sharon spoke to Billy, and she understood Ashland’s past was darker than she realized. Nick didn’t want to get into details, but there was a line drawn in the sand on this family. Victor, Victoria and Adam were on one side, Nick was on the other, and Nikki was in the middle. Sharon thought it was a shame. Noah offered to help if he could. Sharon was there for Nick too. Noah was sure Phyllis had Nick’s back. Nick said he and Phyllis weren’t in a good place. Noah thought they’d seemed good in Italy. Nick said they spent most of the trip sniping at each other. He wasn’t sure if he was taking out his frustrations with the family on her, or if he’d just been hiding behind his anger for Victor and ignoring the ongoing problems. Every time he and Phyllis talked, it was one step forward and six steps back. He felt unsettled, because before all this, he thought he and Phyllis were solid. Noah said it was a weird feeling thinking things were okay, until it suddenly wasn’t. Nick thought it sounded like Noah was speaking from experience. Noah admitted he was. Nick asked if Noah was running from a breakup. Noah just wanted to be around his family. It was nice to be surrounded by people you loved, especially after your relationship went off the rails. Noah was sure Nick and Phyllis would pull through though. Nick noticed Sharon was quiet. She asked what he wanted her to say.

Sharon said every relationship had its issues – she and Rey did, but they worked on them. It was part of a successful relationship. Nick asked what Sharon thought about him and Sharon. Sharon said communication was key, and Nick joked about how generic that was. Sharon said last time they talked about this, she said she just wanted Nick to be happy, and he jumped to the conclusion that she thought he was settling. He admitted he’d been unfair to jump to that conclusion. She was biased when it came to him and Phyllis, so she wasn’t the best person to ask. He was sorry he put her in this awkward position. He usually talked to Victoria about stuff like this, but he couldn’t do that. He had the best of intentions with Victoria, but she didn’t understand why he did what he did, now there was a wall between them, just like there was between him and Phyllis. He was starting to wonder if he was the problem.

1. Noah said there was no way Nick was single-handedly responsible for the way things were going with Victoria. Noah was sure that Victoria and Nick could work things out because they were all family until they died. Nick called that a blessing and a curse. As for Phyllis, Noah thought Nick should try and get to the root of the problem and fix things as soon as they could. Nick admitted it wasn’t that simple. He acknowledged that he and Phyllis had a long rocky past; they hurt each other a lot, and they couldn’t ignore the fact that history could repeat itself. Noah said not to let it become a self-fulfilling prophecy. He said Nick could either turn himself into a victim or fight for what he wanted. Nick believed in his relationship with Phyllis even though he felt her pulling away. He was going to make her see that what they had was worth fighting for, and he was going to start right now. He left. Sharon was impressed with the advice Noah gave Nick. Noah knew Sharon had to walk a fine line on this with Nick, but he said she could be honest with him. He asked what Sharon really thought about Nick and Phyllis. Sharon wanted what was best for Nick, and she’d never believe Phyllis was what best. Noah asked if Sharon thought Phyllis and Nick could make it. Sharon took no pleasure in this, but she thought that relationship was going to fall off a cliff, and it was only a question of when.

When Phyllis got home, Nick was there, and he’d set up a romantic meal.

Ashley, Devon, Tessa and Mariah were at the Chancellor house to support Abby while she waited for news on Chance. Christine entered the room with some photos of things found in the explosion. She asked Abby to look at one. Abby was crushed because she saw Chance’s watch – a family heirloom that Nina gave him before the wedding. Christine said they found it buried in the rubble. Abby pulled herself together and said that this was a good sign. The watch was engraved with “Phillip Chancellor” so Chance wouldn’t have been wearing it if he was undercover. That had to mean that he wasn’t in the building when the bomb went off. Ashley, Mariah and Tessa all said that was a possibility – maybe Chance was in hiding somewhere. Abby asked what Devon thought. Devon didn’t think guessing would be helpful; he felt they should wait until they had something concrete.

Abby didn’t know why everyone looked so upset. She said that Chance must’ve left the watch behind, and he probably wasn’t even in the building when the bomb went off. Christine pointed out that there were no sightings of Chance. Abby said that he was probably in hiding, like Tessa and Mariah said. Abby asked Christine to make more calls. Christine left the room. Abby asked the others to hope and trust that Chance would come home. She said Chance never gave up, and they couldn’t give up on him. Abby pointed out that Tessa didn’t throw in the towel when Mariah went missing – they all kept the faith, and Mariah and the baby made it home. Abby knew that Chance would come home to her and Dominic.

Abby wondered if she should’ve gone with Christine. Ashley didn’t think that it would be a good idea for Abby to hear unconfirmed rumors. Devon was already elsewhere, and Ashley asked Tessa and Mariah to go make snacks. Abby wished everyone would go home and stop staring at her as she slowly lost her mind. Ashley said she wouldn’t let Ashley go through this alone. Devon walked back in. Abby forcefully said that nothing anyone did would help. The only thing that would help was hearing Chance’s voice again. She didn’t care how many pictures people shoved in her face, and she wasn’t going to take the word of a stranger from the state department. The baby started crying, and Abby apologized to him and picked him up.

Mariah returned because she heard the baby crying. Abby wasn’t able to calm him down. Mariah asked if she could help, and Ashley sent her to warm up a bottle. Devon took Dominic, and he immediately settled. Abby felt like she couldn’t do anything right – she couldn’t help Chance, and she couldn’t give her baby what he needed. Abby wanted to be by herself, so she left the house. Ashley wished there was something she could do for Abby. Mariah came back. Ashley hated the thought that Chance and Dominic might not meet. Mariah said they had to stay positive. She wondered if they should go after Abby, but Ashley thought they should let her have space. Ashley told Devon that he was a natural with the baby. Christine came back, and she didn’t have any news. Devon asked what Christine’s opinion was. Christine said the explosion happened in the middle of the night, so it wasn’t necessarily true that Chance took off the watch because he was going to meet someone – he may have taken it off to go to bed. She didn’t want to say that in front of Abby, though. She wished she had better news. Ashley thanked Christine for delivering the news in person. Mariah vowed to be there for Abby.

Abby went to the park. She said she wanted to be here, where Chance proposed to her. She remembered that he said their life would be full of adventure and that they could handle everything life threw at them. She didn’t care what everyone said. She wasn’t giving up on him. She couldn’t. She called Victor and asked for his help.

Chloe and Kevin were at the park watching from afar as Esther played with Miles. Chloe went on social media and noticed that Lauren hadn’t reacted to any of the pictures of the kids in their Halloween costumes. Usually, Lauren was the first to comment or leave an emoji. Kevin suggested that Lauren was busy, but Chloe thought Lauren was still mad at her for letting Sally swap the wedding dresses. Kevin thought Chloe was reading too much into Lauren not liking her photos on social media. Chloe decided to visit Lauren, but she changed her mind when Kevin convinced her that Lauren needed time and space. Kevin asked if Sally had more tricks up her sleeve. Chloe had no idea, since Sally was so unpredictable. Sally was riding high off her success, which might inspire her to take more risks, plus she was grateful to Adam, which meant she wouldn’t listen to the warnings to stay away from him. Chloe got another email from a chain of bridal boutiques who wanted to buy Victoria’s dress style and wanted to know what else Sally was working on. Kevin cheered on Newman Fashion. Chloe said they had to give it to Sally. Chloe said when Chelsea came back, Chloe would have the most incredible designers working together. Kevin thought Chelsea and Sally were a recipe for disaster – Sally had a thing for Adam, and Chelsea was possessive of him. Chloe was sure that she could keep things running smoothly.

Adam listened in on Sally and Billy’s conversation. Billy thought Sally and Adam were dating. She clarified that Adam only took her to Tuscany so she could give Victoria the dress. Billy assumed that Sally was using Adam to further her career. Sally called Billy cynical, and he said if he was, it was only because Adam showed him how low a person could sink. Sally liked and respected Adam. Billy said Adam was smooth and charming, and that only made him more dangerous. He thought she should heed the warning of the person who told her to avoid Adam. Adam walked over, and Sally said that Billy was trying to dig up dirt on Adam. Adam told Billy that he reeked of desperation.

Billy warned Sally to expect lies, manipulation, deceit, and treachery from Adam. Adam noted that Billy said this speech all the time. Billy didn’t understand how Adam kept drawing in new victims. Sally replied that she was no one’s victim. Adam thought Billy spent more time following him than doing his job at ChancComm. Billy said that his job description was following Adam, who’d been a source of scandal and depravity for years, and Billy didn’t think that would change. Sally said they’d have to get used to Billy lurking in the background, which wasn’t what she expected of CEO behavior. Billy said CEOs were supposed to decimate the competition. Adam agreed on that point.

Lily came to Crimson Lights and talked with Sharon. They noticed Billy, Adam and Sally out on the patio. Rey walked in and overheard Sharon asking Lily to convince Billy to leave Adam alone.

Back on the patio, Billy asked Sally if she knew what happened to Chelsea. Sally made it clear that she wasn’t going to thank Billy for the cautionary tales. She was capable of looking out for herself. Billy had heard that about her. Sally was sure that Adam had been warned about her just as much as she’d been warned about him, but they were both rebuilding their lives without judging each other. Adam said Billy warned people to stay away from him, but he couldn’t take his own advice.

Inside Crimson Lights Lily didn’t see a reason to get involved. She wasn’t responsible for what Billy did, and she’d be surprised if Adam asked Sharon to intervene. Sharon saw Rey and she went over to him. Billy entered and Lily asked what was going on with Adam. He said it wasn’t worth repeating. They received their order and left.

Rey came by to tell Sharon about his conversation with Noah, but now he wanted to know what she and Lily were talking about. She said they were talking about Billy. She ranted about how irritating Billy was at times. From what Rey overheard, it sounded like it had more to do with Sharon’s feelings about Adam.

On the patio, Sally asked what Billy was talking about and who Jesse Gaines was. Adam brushed it off as Billy posturing. Adam appreciated Sally defending him. Sally wasn’t sure it made a difference. Adam said it made a difference to him. She said not to read too much into it. She was just treating him the way she wanted to be treated – basing her opinions on who he was now, not who he used to be. He appreciated that. He came to apologize for being so abrupt earlier. She thanked him. She said that Billy seemed to be on a mission to bring down Adam and Newman Media. Adam said that Billy wasn’t a threat. Sally didn’t think Adam believed that, and she asked how concerned she should be about Newman Fashion getting caught in the crossfire. He told her not to be concerned at all.

Back inside, Sharon looked out to the patio to make sure Adam and Sally were gone before continuing her discussion with Rey. She said that she would be just as annoyed with Billy if he were attacking someone other than Adam. She said that Billy was stirring things up and his accusations are way out of left field. He asked how she knew that, and she said she ran into Billy in the park and overheard part of his conversation. Rey noted that this happened after he told Sharon that it’d be better if she didn’t get involved. Sharon said she didn’t track Billy down – he was on the phone in a public place. Sharon thought Billy came to Rey because Rey had personal problems with Adam in the past. She felt like Billy was manipulating Rey. Rey said he didn’t get sucked in. Rey knew Sharon would react this way, and that was exactly why he didn’t want her to get involved. Sharon felt that she was having a normal and natural reaction to Billy spreading ugly rumors. Rey felt like Billy was asking reasonable questions. He said Adam had a nasty track record, but she said Adam had changed. He reminded her that Adam had recently kidnapped Chelsea, and she said that was a low point. He scoffed, and she noted that even Nick noticed how hard Adam was trying. She said Billy admitted he’d never get over what happened with Delia.

Sharon thought Billy would always see Adam as a monster. Rey asked Sharon if she saw Adam as a victim who always needed saving. She said no. He overheard what she said to Lily. She admitted that she shouldn’t have gotten involved, but she’d acted on impulse. He stated that it was always her impulse to protect Adam. He thought they both needed air, so he left.

Billy and Lily went to ChancComm. He told her that there was no activity on Gaines’ passport. She suggested that Gaines used a pseudonym or used the money Billy gave him to buy a car. Billy suggested that Gaines was still in Tuscany hiding out, or maybe he was dead. Lily didn’t think Adam or any of the Newmans were capable of murder. “Do not tell me that you actually think he is reformed,” Billy said. Lily thought there was a range between angel and cold-blooded killer. She asked why he always thought the worst of Adam. She pointed out that he thought Adam poisoned Rey, but Adam had been framed. He shifted gears and said they knew Adam and Victor were going after ChancComm. Lily asked Billy what the game plan was, and he said it was to find Gaines, dead or alive. He thought Gaines was their best weapon.

Lily said that if something happened to Gaines, the goal would be to prove Adam was responsible. Billy added that a bonus would be that it would destroy Newman Media. She asked him to please tell her he wasn’t hoping for this. He said that the best case scenario would be finding Gaines alive and getting his full cooperation. That way they’d have proof of Ashland’s crimes and proof that Adam and Victor were complicit in trying to cover it up. They would have leverage over all three of them. She said that even if they found Gaines, he might not want to talk to them. She had another idea for fending off an attack from Newman Media.

Lily thought they needed an ally who had influence over Victor and Ashland – Victoria. Billy said Victoria was furious with him over bringing Gaines to the wedding. Lily thought Billy was back in Victoria’s good graces after deleting the video. He didn’t feel comfortable asking Victoria for protection. Lily said they were capable of taking on Victor and Adam alone, but if Victoria could convince Victor to stand down, they could avoid this battle. He thought that was a good strategy. He wasn’t going to give up on trying to find Gaines though. She was fine with that as long as they worked the Victoria angle too. He texted Victoria asking to talk.

Sally ran into Chloe and Kevin in the park. Kevin left to get some coffee before work. Chloe asked Sally how it felt to be the most popular designer around. Sally said it was a dream. She asked how things were going between Chloe and Lauren. Chloe said they hadn’t made up completely but it’d happen. Sally mentioned that Billy and Adam got into a serious disagreement. Chloe wished Billy knew how to walk away from a fight. Sally said that she might just be paranoid, but it sounded like Billy and Adam were about to go to war. She was concerned that the fallout from their feud would hurt Newman Fashion.

Kevin ran into Rey on the patio at Crimson Lights. Rey compared Adam to a chronic disease that you could never get rid of. Kevin hadn’t had a good night’s sleep since Chloe started working for him. Rey asked why Chloe took the job. Kevin said she did it for Chelsea. He said Chloe was strong enough to take what she needed from Adam and keep her distance otherwise, but Kevin felt like she was playing with fire. He thought that one of these days, Adam would go too far and end up in prison for good. That day couldn’t come soon enough for Kevin.

Adam met with a private investigator in his office to talk about something. Adam said this was a confidential case that was just between them and Victor.

In the park, Billy unsuccessfully tried to tell Sharon she misinterpreted what she overheard. She said he couldn’t let go of his anger toward Adam. He was surprised by her impulse to defend Adam, especially given how it affected her marriage to Rey. She told him not to dare turn this around on her. She asked what he hoped to get out of this attack, a juicy news story? She asked what he thought Adam did. He was surprised Rey didn’t tell her. Sharon suggested that Rey was discreet about spreading around unfounded allegations, but Billy didn’t have those scruples. Billy said he thought that Adam, on Victor’s orders, made a man disappear because he was a threat to Victoria and Ashland’s wedding. He said this guy had damning information about Ashland’s past, and he went to Tuscany to confront him. He told her that he’d be careful about championing Adam, because it looked like the old Adam was back. Sharon asked what Billy was saying happened – bribery? He was sure it wasn’t bribery, since the missing man took money from almost everyone, and he still went to Tuscany. She asked what he was suggesting – kidnapping? Murder? Billy noted that he never said any of those things, but he thought it was interesting that Sharon’s mind went there. He said she knew what Adam was capable of. Sharon thought the theories were impossible because Victor wouldn’t order something like that, and Adam had no motive to help, since he had no allegiance to Ashland, and there was no love lost with Victoria. Billy thought Adam would do anything to stay in the Newman fold. Sharon thought Billy was grasping at straws. She felt like Adam deserved a chance to turn his life around, just like everyone gave Billy a chance.

Adam was in the office with Victor, who was pleased that Adam was finally coming around on going to war with Billy. After seeing how focused Billy was on Gaines and Ashland, Adam thought this was the perfect time to strike. Adam believed that Victor set Billy up perfectly with that warning. Adam predicted that Billy would be distracted by Gaines and on high alert. Ashland entered as Victor said that Billy wouldn’t know what hit him. Ashland was on board with anything to take Billy down a notch. Adam said they’d been planning to include Ashland. Victor and Adam revealed that they wanted to destabilize ChancComm then take it over. Victor said they were successful at taking over Cyaxares and rebranding it as Newman Media. Ashland knew this had less to do with business and more to do with taking on Billy. Ashland wasn’t going to keep secrets from Victoria anymore, so he didn’t want them to tell him anything that they didn’t want her to know. Victor said he already told Billy that they were going after him. Victor told Ashland not to be concerned about letting Victoria know what they were up to.

Victor filled Ashland in. Ashland was impressed by the cleverness and ruthlessness of the plan. “Who knew Jesse Gaines would actually prove to be so useful?,” Ashland said. Victor and Adam were sure that Billy would fall into this trap. Victor said Billy would move quickly to try and hurt Newman Media. Everyone smiled about weakening ChancComm and ripping it out from under Billy.

Noah was in the cottage. He had his feet up on the coffee table, which was covered in empty takeout containers. He was on the phone, and he told someone that it was weird to be in Genoa City longer than a quick visit. He didn’t know what his future held. Rey walked in. Noah ended the call and flashed a sheepish smile. Rey helped an apologetic Noah clean up. Noah thanked Rey for letting him stay. Rey replied that Noah grew up in this home, and he was always welcome. Rey looked forward to getting to know Noah. Noah asked what was going on at the ranch. Rey said not much had changed, Victor got a few more horses. Faith was falling for Moses Winters. Sharon was amazing. Noah thought Rey was too. He heard Rey helped save Mariah. Noah was impressed with Rey’s devotion to Noah’s family. It made Noah feel less guilty for not being there. Rey said Noah’s mom and sisters were important to him. Noah asked about Rey’s family. Rey missed them, but Genoa City felt like home.

Rey and Noah relaxed on the couch. Noah promised to rein in his bachelor lifestyle and be more considerate. Rey hoped Noah would feel comfortable here and that living with them wouldn’t cramp his style. Noah said it wouldn’t be a problem. He didn’t know how long he’d stay. He spent a lot of years in the cottage, but it didn’t feel like home anymore. London didn’t feel like home either. Rey felt the same when he went to Miami. It took him awhile to settle in. He loved his family, but it wasn’t who he was anymore, and before long, he wanted to get back to Sharon and Genoa City. Noah said he felt in limbo between his childhood home and future home. Rey was sure Noah would figure it out, but there was no rush. Rey said that people were going to pressure Noah to stay in Genoa City for good.

At Newman Enterprises, Victoria showed Nikki some pictures of the wedding. Nikki said that the wedding agreed with Victoria – she was glowing and looked strong, happy and in love. Victoria felt that way too. She knew she and Ashland had challenges ahead, but she couldn’t be more content. Nikki hoped Victoria could work things out with Nick. Victoria didn’t want the thought of Nick bringing her down. She said she’d deal with it after the honeymoon. She was surprising Ashland with the perfect stress-free getaway to paradise, far away from everyone and everything, especially paparazzi. A private island, five star meals, masseuse. They would leave in a week if they could get caught up on all the work that built up while they were in Tuscany. Nikki was sure Victoria would work 24/7 to make that happen.

Ashland went to Victoria’s office after Nikki left. Victoria was so excited about the honeymoon that she couldn’t help showing him a picture of the place they were going. He didn’t react, and she asked what was going on. He revealed that Victor and Adam were making a move to crush ChancComm and fold it into Newman Media. From a business standpoint, it made sense to Ashland, and he’d done it many times before. She asked why he wanted her to know. He didn’t want secrets between them. He said she might not want Victor and Adam to go after Billy for the same reason he claimed to be trying to protect her – for the children. Victoria didn’t want anymore details. She said that if Billy wanted to play in the big leagues, he had to step up and protect his company. Ashland was surprised and impressed by Victoria’s response. He said he’d honor her wishes and keep the details from her. Victoria told Ashland he should feel flattered because he’d won her father’s respect. Victor only circled the wagons and went on the attack for family. Ashland thought that sounded like cause for celebration, and he suggested lunch at Society.

Noah ended up at the main house after a walk around the ranch. Nikki wanted to go riding with Noah, which they hadn’t done in years. They noted that, for once, he wasn’t in town because of a family crisis. She asked how long he’d be staying. When she was in London with him, she saw how fabulous his career was going. He thanked her, but said only a proud grandma would call his career fabulous. She teased that he got his endearing modesty from her. He was thinking he could do some more work for Newman Media. Nikki sensed Noah would be in town for awhile, and that made her happy. She felt like something was on his mind, and she wondered if there was a reason he left London. He said he wasn’t running from anything. He said he was worried about Nick. Nikki had been concerned too – Nick and Victor had always been different, but they were both stubborn, and this issue wouldn’t be going away any time soon.

Nick was at Phyllis’s suite, and things were still tense. He asked if they were ever going to talk, or if she was going to keep giving him the silent treatment. She coolly told him she had to go to work, but he said work could wait. He knew he upset her, but he was dealing with some things with his family, and he could use her support. She contended that he rejected her support. He said that when her support came in the form of Newman-bashing, it seemed like she wasn’t listening. She said she was listening and being supportive, and every time she did that, he got offended. He felt like she was telling him to push the hard issues aside because it was a lot easier than dealing with his contentious family. She denied doing that. He wanted to sit down and have a calm talk. She snapped that she wasn’t as calm as him. She was offended that he was insinuating that she didn’t have good communication skills and that she didn’t care about his feelings, and maybe the first one was true sometimes, but the second one wasn’t. He said he wasn’t doing that. She didn’t want to talk now. She needed space, and she left.

Sally ran into Jack at Crimson Lights and made some cryptic comments about how his relationship with Phyllis seemed to be deepening. He didn’t know what she was getting at, but he said she had her own tricky relationship to navigate with her new boss, Adam. He excused himself. Sally headed out to the patio where she ran into Adam. She told him that an article called her the next Vera Wang. He didn’t react, and she wasn’t sure if that was because he didn’t agree or because he didn’t know who that was. She wanted to do a write up on the dramatic story of getting the wedding dress to Victoria at the last minute. He admitted he didn’t care about the wedding dress press right now. She assumed this was his way of keeping their relationship strictly professional. She guessed she mistakenly thought that the fashion division was more important to Newman Media than it was. He told her to stop taking things so personally – there was more to Newman Media than her fashion line. He had a call to take, so he left.

Phyllis went to Crimson Lights, and Jack immediately knew something was wrong. She didn’t want to dump her problems on him. He said he could handle it. She said things weren’t getting better with Nick. She felt like she had to deal with a superficial relationship to make things work out – as soon as things got too deep, it crumbled. She said that no one was doing anything big, like cheating or keeping secrets, but it had all gone sideways. She asked what to do. He said no relationship was easy and the way couples handled the rough spots were a testament to the depth and strength of the relationship. She said she and Nick weren’t handling the rocky parts at all. She wasn’t sure they were even capable of it. She said Nick wanted to talk, but she left because she was concerned she would overreact. As someone who’d been on the receiving end of her temper, he thought that was probably a good idea. He said she could get her head in the right place before she had an important adult conversation. She thought he always knew the right thing to say. He told her not to give up.

Sally, who was still at the coffeehouse, thought about calling Adam, but she didn’t. She was on her way in from the patio when she saw Jack and Phyllis.

Adam was on a business call, and someone mentioned what an asset Sally was. He agreed and said they were happy to have her. The call ended, and he thought about calling Sally, but he didn’t. He left the office.

Later, Billy joined Sally at her table. He wanted background on a story about Newman Media and Jesse Gaines. Sally didn’t know who that was. He said that a source suggested Adam and Victor were involved in Jesse’s disappearance. He knew she rode on Adam’s private jet and he wondered if she heard anything about Jesse on the return flight. She had nothing to say to him. She knew he was a rival with Newman Media, and her loyalty lay with her employer. He saw her getting cozy with Adam at the palazzo. He said that Adam was savvy and dangerous and he only cared about himself. He told her to protect herself. She said he wasn’t the first to warn her about Adam, but she’d also been warned about Billy and his vendetta against Adam. She said she could make her own decisions. Adam arrived and he saw Sally and Billy talking.

Ashland and Victoria went to Society and ran into Victor. Victoria said Ashland told her about the plan. Victor started to explain that Billy had this coming. Victoria didn’t need to be convinced. She was on board, but she didn’t want the details. She said all was fair in business, and she was done protecting Billy.

Victor was on his way out of Society when Nick arrived. Victor wanted to go back inside and grab coffee with Nick, but Nick said he was grabbing a quick meal and going home to Christian. He mentioned that Noah was in town and that it’d be nice if he could spend time with his grandparents. Victor said that Nikki was planning a dinner. He hoped Nick would be there. Nick didn’t think that was a good idea. Victor hoped Nick could get over what happened in Tuscany. Nick felt like Victor used him then tossed him aside in favor of Adam. Nick said he was questioning his place in this family yet again. That broke Victor’s heart. He asked why Nick didn’t feel like he was part of the family. Nick said Victor’s lack of awareness was at the core of the problem – he never perceived how his actions were seen from his children’s point of view, at least not Nick’s. Victor didn’t understand, because he gave Nick everything he wanted and needed. Nick said this push-pull dynamic wasn’t going to go away. Nick wasn’t even angry, he was just exhausted. He wasn’t hungry anymore, so he left.

Victoria showed Ashland the honeymoon picture again. He commented that she was happy about it, and he said everything that made her happy made him happy too. The oncologist called with some test results. Ashland wanted to go home and talk, but Victoria insisted on hearing what the doctor said now. Ashland said the chemotherapy wasn’t working. Victoria said it was okay – they’d just find another treatment. She hoped he wasn’t giving up; they just had to fight harder.

Phyllis went home and texted Nick to see if he was ready to talk. She called room service and ordered all the bestselling food in the romance and honeymoon package for her and Nick. She grabbed some lingerie to put on, but then she got a text from Nick saying he was staying home because Christian had a cold.

Abby paced around her living room and pointed out that Chance might not have been in the building when the bomb went off. Ashley said she believed that too, but she thought Christine was trying to prepare them. The doorbell rang, and Abby thought it might be the feds with news on Chance. Ashley answered the door, and it was Mariah and Tessa. Ashley’s grim expression made Mariah think something happened to Dominic, and she rushed into the living room. Christine explained that Chance was likely killed in an explosion. Tessa told Abby how sorry she was, and Ashley said they were trying to be positive. Mariah said it was definitely positive that Chance wasn’t in the building. At Abby’s request, Christine went to call a contact to see if she could get more information. Abby was looking for a distraction, so she asked why Mariah and Tessa came. Mariah gave Abby the bear. Abby wiped away tears and gave the bear to the baby.

Michael met with Amanda and Devon at Society. Michael said that the jury selection for Sutton’s case was complete, and he’d been able to remove some potential jurors who seemed biased toward Sutton. Amanda was glad Michael leveled the playing field, and she wished she could’ve been there to see him in action. The trial started next week. Amanda was pleased things were moving quickly because Naya had a heart condition, and a long drawn out trial wouldn’t be good for her. Michael wanted Amanda to testify against her grandfather. “You want me to testify against my grandfather?,” Amanda asked. Michael just wanted Amanda to take the stand and tell the jury what happened – that she accepted a role defending her grandfather, and after she did her research, she concluded that she couldn’t defend him after all. Devon thought Amanda’s conversations with Sutton were protected by attorney-client privilege. Michael only wanted Amanda to testify about the things she learned after she was fired. Amanda knew the defense wouldn’t like it, and Michael giddily said that defense’s heads would explode, which would only make the jury more interested in Amanda’s testimony. “What testimony is more compelling that Sutton Ames’ own granddaughter and, wait for it, former attorney,” Michael said.

Devon said that Michael was asking a lot. Michael knew, but this was a way to quickly and effectively present the case. Amanda said that Naya and Imani deserved peace. Devon was concerned about the effect this would have on Amanda. He thought she should consider what it meant to testify in open court and how that would effect her relationship with her mom and sister. He was also concerned that she’d be in danger if the trial went south and Sutton walked. Michael told Amanda that her testimony could span several days, and he wasn’t asking her to do this lightly. Devon got an emergency text from Abby, and he was torn because he didn’t want to leave Amanda while she was mulling over a big decision. Amanda said she’d be fine, but she asked him to let her know as soon as he knew what was going on. He said he loved her and left. Michael said that they’d go over Devon’s concerns and Amanda’s concerns one at a time, because he was convinced this was their best shot at conviction.

Amanda said the defense would say she was trying to settle a score with Sutton because he forced Naya to give up her and her twin at birth. Michael said he’d counter that by saying the mounting evidence convinced Amanda that Sutton was lying, so she went in search for the truth, and she found it. Amanda pointed out that Sutton never explicitly confessed on the recording. She was sure that the defense would say that the recording was inadmissible. Michael pointed out that the jury would know that the recording existed and that everything Amanda was saying was true, otherwise, why would the defense try so keep it out of the courtroom? He said that prosecutors rarely had a full confession. He stated that they had to take the jury on the same journey that Amanda took – show them that he was capable of having her father killed then hiring her for his defense. He said that was how they’d get justice for her father. “Okay. I’ll do it,” she said.

Michael figured that at least some of the jurors would be fans of or at least familiar with Hilary’s talk show. He believed those jurors would be moved when he told them how Amanda was denied the opportunity to meet or grow up with Hilary. Amanda thought that might be manipulative. He said it was a fact of the case, and this was a way to make an old murder seem as relevant as it was when it was committed. He said she’d let those people know exactly what Sutton took from her. She looked shaken, and he asked if she needed a break. She felt overwhelmed because she finally felt like they had a shot at winning the case. For the first time, she felt like she’d get justice for her father, and it would be enormously satisfying, but she’d trade it all for one day with her father.

Back at the Chancellor house, Christine said search and rescue were working through the rubble. Abby checked her phone for texts from Chance, but she didn’t get anything. She said she knew that he was okay, though. Abby begged Christine to make more calls. Christine went to reach out to someone else, even though she didn’t think they’d know anything. Abby left the room too. Mariah looked in on Dominic, who was sleeping through the whole thing. Devon arrived.

Devon got filled in, and he said it had been hard not to prepare himself for something like this, given how long the mission wore on and how dangerous it was. Ashley had been afraid something like this would happen. Mariah and Tessa advised that they were staying optimistic. Abby walked back in and hugged Devon. He assured her that none of them would give up. She said she could use his hope and strength.

Billy met with Rey at Crimson Lights. He explained that Gaines had disappeared just before he could reveal some damaging information about Ashland. None of Billy’s investigative reporters had been able to find Gaines, and Billy thought Adam had something to do with it. Rey asked what the nature of the information Gaines wanted to reveal was. Billy wouldn’t say, but he stated that Ashland paid a lot of money to keep this secret quiet, because it would jeopardize everything he built, and the Newmans had rallied around him. Billy had no proof of what Adam did, it was all instinct. Rey needed more than that to open an official investigation. Billy knew that, but he came to Rey because he thought Rey knew what kind of person Adam was. Billy said that this was Rey’s opportunity to get justice for Gaines and rid them of Adam once and for all. Sharon walked up and asked what Rey and Billy were talking about so intently.

Rey explained that Billy came to him about a missing person. Rey told Billy that this was out of his jurisdiction. Rey stated that all Billy had now was circumstantial evidence and conjecture. Rey was was willing approach the proper authorities if Billy came back to him with something more substantial. Billy left. Sharon asked Rey why Billy came to him. He pointed out that he was with the police. He said that Billy was probably working on something for a story. Sharon saw how intense Rey and Billy’s discussion was, and she sensed there was more to this. He said that this would probably turn out to be nothing, and there was no reason for her to get involved.

Sally was in Adam’s office. She reminded Adam that he’d said the best thing he could ask for was a productive and profitable day. She showed him fifteen glowing reviews on Victoria’s dress from the European fashion press. He thought that was fantastic invited her to lunch to celebrate, and she said that was great. After a moment, she said they’d invite Chloe and make it a working meal. She left.

Adam and Sally went to Society, and they ran into Billy. Sally stepped away to call Chloe. Adam heard from Victor that Billy deleted the video in Tuscany. He was shocked and impressed with Billy’s noble gesture. Billy wondered why Gaines didn’t follow through with his threat to publicly reveal Gaines’ secret. Adam concluded that Billy didn’t make a noble gesture after all and that he’d decided to let Gaines be the bad guy. Billy thought it was mysterious that Gaines just vanished. Adam asked why Billy looked for the nefarious side of everything. Billy stated that everything Adam was involved in was nefarious.

Billy thought Adam was pretending to care about his family – saving teens from crashes and donating organs to win Sharon over. Billy said he wasn’t fooled by Adam, and neither was anyone else who knew the lengths he’d go to get approval from Victor. Adam surmised that Billy thought he had something to do with Gaines going off grid. “I didn’t say that,” Billy said. “But it is interesting that you would go there,” Billy added. Adam suggested that Gaines grew a conscience. “I mean that happens. Look at you… Okay but that was actually a really bad example,” Adam said. Billy didn’t think so. Adam suggested Gaines got another offer, but he didn’t think they’d ever know. Billy said he’d take that bet. Sally returned and Billy left.

Chloe couldn’t make it. Sally asked what was the deal with Billy. Adam said that it had become a game with them – they called each other out and pushed each other’s buttons. “We both claim we’re trying to better ourselves, but neither one of us believes the other is capable of doing it,” he admitted. Sally thought Adam had changed tremendously, at least from everything she heard and read. She asked if he wasn’t allowing for the possibility that Billy was too. Adam said the difference was he didn’t like who he used to be, but he thought Billy still missed his reckless lifestyle. He said Billy was a gambler who lost more than he won – he was an addict who found another way to chase the rush. He said Billy would never forgive him for Delia’s death, and there was nothing Adam could do about it. He said Billy would never stop grieving for his daughter, and he’d never stop hating Adam. Adam understood that he earned Billy’s hatred, but he’d never like, trust or respect Billy. She asked if he was afraid of what Billy might do to him one day. He wasn’t worried about Billy, but he said things were going to get worse between them. She asked why. He said the details didn’t matter. He didn’t want her to worry.

Billy went to the park. He called Marty and told her that Gaines disappeared and this time, it wasn’t his doing. Gaines was too big of a threat to the Newman family. He theorized that Adam was behind it, but the police didn’t have enough to go on. He asked Marty to drop everything and start an investigation to find Gaines. She agreed. The call ended. Sharon was there, and she’d heard enough to know he was investigating Adam. She said he went to Rey, hoping to dredge up the bad blood Rey and Adam had between them in the past. He said that wasn’t his intention. She felt like he kept finding excuses to target or hurt Adam, and she asked when he was going to let go of his hatred.

Nick went to The Grand Phoenix. Phyllis noted that the first person he saw when he arrived in Genoa City was not her, but Sharon. He explained that Noah wanted to surprise his mother and share his big news – he was staying in Genoa City for the foreseeable future. Nick had wanted to be there with Noah when he talked to Sharon. Nick was concerned because Noah didn’t want to talk about his reason for leaving the UK. He hoped his son would open up to him. Phyllis hoped Nick would open up to her about their relationship. He didn’t think anything was wrong with their relationship. She knew things were difficult, and she wanted to help, but she felt like he was pushing her away. She said that when she said anything about his family or agreed with anything he said about his family, he took it as a criticism. He admitted he was having a hard time and he probably wasn’t handling it correctly, but he wasn’t pushing her away. She assured him that she was there for him, a partner, a teammate, and she didn’t like being distant from him. They kissed, then she lead him up to the elevator where they kissed again.

In the suite, Phyllis and Nick undressed each other and fell into bed. Later, he said he was thinking about being a Newman and what that really meant. It was something he thought he’d dealt with a long time ago. He said it wasn’t like he was Adam, a black sheep, or Victoria, chained to the office, trying to prove she was the heir. He said he was just doing his own thing. Every time the family had a problem, they turned to him, but he felt like he was on the outside. She said that when anyone had a problem, he was there to protect them and support them. She said he was the only one who was always there, but his family looked at it like it was a weakness, or they didn’t take it seriously. He started getting uncomfortable as she talked, and she wondered what she said. He told her it was hard to hear how much she couldn’t stand his family.

Phyllis said that Nick could just ignore everything his family did to him over and over and over again. She stated that he was successful, he’d built a whole career on his own without his family’s help, his kids were successful, he was dating a wildly successful knock out, but he didn’t seem to look at that. “Who cares about what your screwed up family does?,” she asked. He hopped out of bed. He said that her go-to solution for any problem was to just pretend it didn’t exist, but he couldn’t do that. She denied saying that. He said for better or worse, this was his family. He felt like she was trivializing issues that were important to him. She was offended that he’d say that to her. “You always think the absolute worst about me, don’t you? No matter how hard I work to bend over backwards to help you with your family.” She went to another part of the suite.

Sharon was surprised and elated when Noah and Nick showed up at Crimson Lights. She hugged her son, and he said he was staying in town for awhile because he needed a change of pace and he wanted to visit home for awhile. She decided to take the day off to spend with him. The trio sat down, and Nick said he hadn’t been to the Palazzo since boarding school. Noah raved about the view. Sharon thought it sounded elegant and romantic, and she was sure Nick had a nice time experiencing it with Phyllis. Sharon saw some drama online about the wedding dress. Nick said that Victoria wore a dress designed by Sally. Sharon thought Victoria looked radiant and in love in her pictures. Sharon asked if there was a reason Noah didn’t want to go back to London. She said he might live an ocean away, but he was her son, and she knew him. Nick recalled that Noah didn’t talk very much about himself in Tuscany. Noah said he’d just been worried about Nick. Noah’s parents assured him that he could open up to them. Noah admitted he was starting to feel like he was in a rut in London. Sharon was surprised because Noah always made London sound exciting and fulfilling. Every once in awhile, it was time for a change, Noah said.

Victoria and Ashland were at Newman Enterprises. They did some final work on the merger. He mentioned how the work piled up when one did something crazy. “Like get married?,” she asked, with a smile. She asked if he had any regrets. He didn’t, but he knew he’d given her reasons to. She had zero regrets and she couldn’t love him more if she tried. She didn’t want to hear the names Bobby DeFranco, Camilla Rhodes or Jesse Gaines ever again. It was the past, and all she cared about was their future. All she wanted him to do was focus on fighting cancer. He said she’d be amazed at how much he could handle for her. He kissed her head.

Ashland looked online for any leaks about his past, in case Gaines made good on his threat to expose him before Victor handled the situation. He knew she didn’t want to think about this, but he couldn’t let his guard down. Victoria noted that Victor said he handled it. Ashland trusted Victor, but Victor thought he handled Gaines before, and he still showed up at the wedding with Billy. Victoria said she should’ve had her parents bring the kids instead of Billy. It would’ve saved them so much grief. Ashland said Victoria wasn’t to blame for this. Victoria believed Victor and Adam’s assurances that they’d neutralized the threat. Victoria changed the subject to their honeymoon. Ashland pointed out that they just got back to a mountain of work. She said they’d handle all that, then they’d go away. He loved the way she was forcing him to keep his priorities straight. He told her to pick the most romantic spot on the planet, and he’d make it happen. She said she’d already handled it, and he’d never guess what her honeymoon surprise was.

Tessa woke up and found Mariah on her laptop. Tessa hugged Mariah from behind, and Mariah said she loved her gift. Mariah said so much had changed since Tessa left for Italy. Mariah now saw that it was unfair to make unilateral decisions about their future, springing the idea of having a baby right away on Tessa and expecting Tessa to get pregnant when they’d barely discussed the possibility of having kids. Mariah didn’t know what she was thinking. Tessa was understanding because Mariah was traumatized, but Mariah said that was no excuse for being selfish, and she felt awful about that. Mariah was so sorry. She said nothing mattered more than their relationship. Tessa said she probably should’ve skipped the trip, as Mariah asked her to. Mariah didn’t agree. In fact, she was cringing about even asking Tessa not to go to the wedding. Tessa said that Mariah wasn’t ready for an event like that, and she needed Tessa. Tessa spent most of her time in Tuscany worrying that she’d pushed Mariah away and that Mariah would say they were better off apart. Mariah said she’d never say that. Tessa kissed Mariah’s hand.

Mariah said it had been torture being away from Tessa. Tessa felt the same. Mariah apologized again for impulsively pressing for a baby. She was sure it seemed like she was trying to manufacture a perfect life to avoid dealing with what she’d been through. Mariah now realized she needed to work through being abducted while pregnant. She admitted it affected her in ways she was just beginning to deal with. Tessa told Mariah not to be hard on herself, because it would take time to process this. Mariah knew she had to manage her maternal feelings toward Dominic, and she was working on that. She saw the baby earlier, and it was still a challenge, but after she left, she felt better. She had a conversation with Abby that made her realize that cutting ties wasn’t the way to go about this. It made her miss the baby more. She decided to go with the original plan and be as much a part of the baby’s life as Abby would let her, and if it got too overwhelming, she knew Tessa would be by her side. Tessa said everything Mariah was saying was so smart and strong. She felt like she was falling in love with Mariah all over again. They kissed. Tessa rested her head on Mariah’s lap, and they talked about remaining in this position forever until Mariah realized Tessa hadn’t eaten. Tessa wanted a ropa vieja from Society, and they decided to go to the restaurant.

At Society, Noah asked how Faith was. He knew she had a hard time last year with the mean girls. Sharon was sure Faith would be happy to tell him, but so far, she was having a stellar year. Nick and Sharon commented that Noah kept charmingly deflecting every time they asked him a personal question. Noah saw Mariah and Tessa walk in and seized the opportunity to end the questioning by going over to say hi. Mariah hugged her brother, then Tessa hugged Noah too.

Back at their table, Sharon asked what Noah meant when he said he was worried about Nick in Italy. Nick said he’d been uinvited from the wedding. He explained that Victor and Billy were doing their own investigations into Ashland. Nick also did some digging, and Victoria got mad. Sharon asked if Nick found something concrete or just rumors. He said the details didn’t matter, because Victoria got married anyway, but it changed his relationship with his sister. He went to Italy to make amends, but Victoria felt really betrayed. Sharon said that must have hurt. Nick was still hurt, but he had to hope Victoria would forgive him. Nick said he’d rather talk about their boy though. He sated that Sharon always had a good read on Noah, and he asked what she thought. She and Noah had plenty of conversations about London, and Noah always said he felt like he’d come into his own there. Now he seemed ready to leave it behind, and she thought something must’ve happened to make him feel that way.

Noah wished Mariah was there to see Tessa sing. He said she’d grown as an artist. Tessa said being accompanied by the great Leslie Brooks helped. Mariah saw it because someone posted it online. Mariah asked how long Noah was in town. He wasn’t sure, but he doubted he’d go back soon. She asked what went wrong. He said nothing went wrong. London wasn’t who he was, and he never would be. Genoa City was his home, and he missed his family and friends. Tessa said they missed him too. Noah asked how Mariah was. He couldn’t imagine how terrifying it must’ve been and how difficult it must be now with the baby around. Mariah said it had been tough, but she had a great support system. She took Tessa’s hand. He thought they seemed happy and solid, and he said it was one thing to find love and another to hold onto it. He thought he should get back to his parents. Noah went back to the table, and Sharon waved at Mariah. Tessa was glad the three of them were in a good place and they’d moved on from the past.

Over at the other table, Sharon was glad when Noah said Mariah seemed to be better. Nick said he filled Sharon on in Tuscany. Noah said he tried to play mediator, but it was tense and he kind of hated it. He asked if he could help, and Nick said he had it covered. Nick wanted to talk about Noah and he offered to help him. Noah said he’d figure it out, unless they didn’t want him to stay, he joked. Sharon insisted that Noah was staying, and Nick pretended that he was on the fence. Later, they left, and as they were walking out, Sharon briefly took Mariah’s hands. Mariah wanted to give the teddy bear that Tessa gave her to Dominic, if Tessa didn’t mind. Tessa had a feeling Mariah was going to ask that, and that was part of the reason she bought it. Mariah asked if they should go do that now. Tessa thought Mariah already saw the baby today and said it wasn’t easy for her. Mariah said it wasn’t, but it was a lot easier than it had been. Mariah promised this wasn’t coming from an obsessive place. She just thought the baby would like the bear, and he slept through most of their last visit. Tessa agreed to go. Mariah took Tessa’s hand and they walked out.

Ashley held her grandson and talked with Abby at the Chancellor mansion. Abby said Dominic was an angel and a pretty good sleeper. Ashley recalled that baby Abby would scream every time she left the house. Ashley knew Victor was smitten with Dominic, and she was sure Brad would have been too. Abby admitted the past few days had been rough because she missed Chance, and he was missing out on time with Dominic. It wasn’t fair to the three of them. The situation was maddening. Ashley was sure Chance felt the same way. It was getting harder for Abby to find the silver lining. The assignment had gone on longer than anyone anticipated and there was no end in sight. She didn’t even know what the mission entailed or how much danger her husband was in. Ashley assured Abby that there were so many people who’d drop everything if she needed them. Ashley asked how Mariah was. Abby said she seemed to be doing better. Ashley asked if Abby was worried about Mariah being around the baby after she broke down at the christening. Abby was, but not out of fear for Dominic, but out of concern for Mariah.

Abby jokingly told Dominic not to listen to Grandma’s stories about Mommy being a cranky baby. Ashley assured Abby that it had been worth it. Abby put Dominic in his bassinet, and Christine called. Abby was delighted because there was news about Chance that Christine was coming to deliver in person. After Abby hung up, she wondered what the news was. She was thinking good things, and Ashley cautioned her about getting her hopes up, because Christine might be coming to say the assignment had been extended. Abby said she was only thinking positive thoughts. Ashley just didn’t want Abby to be disappointed. Abby reiterated that she was only thinking positive thoughts.

Abby took some pictures of Dominic for Chance. Christine showed up, and she asked Abby to come sit down. There were reports coming in from the city where Chance was now. Abby asked where he was. Christine couldn’t say. He’d recently been transferred for the final portion of his assignment. The place Chance was got hit by a bomb in the middle of the night, and the state department feared there were no survivors. Abby was sure that was a mistake. She got up and walked around in a daze while Christine told Ashley that she was calling her contacts trying to get verification. Christine told Abby that even if the reports of the explosion were accurate, that didn’t mean Chance was in the building at the time. “He wasn’t. He couldn’t have been,” Abby stated. She was adamant that she would know, and she would feel it if he was.

Lily and Billy were at home on their electronics. She asked if he was upset he deleted the video from Gaines. He was fine with it, since he’d accepted Victoria’s wishes. However, he was surprised Gaines didn’t post it after he’d said he was going to. He thought they needed to focus on the real threat – Victor and Adam. Lily wondered if Victor blatantly threatened Billy as a way to unnerve him. Billy thought Lily was right it wasn’t usual for Victor to show his hand like this. Billy recalled that, at the Newman Media launch, Adam told him that if and when Newman Media went after ChancComm, Billy would never see it coming. Billy thought that made it even more peculiar that, in Tuscany, he overheard Victor telling Adam to devise a strategy. He said Victor wanted them to know he was coming. Lily suggested that Victor wanted to warn them so they could prepare and have a fair fight. Billy thought Lily was right earlier and that Victor wanted to get inside his head and throw them off their game. Lily suggested that Victor wanted them to be focused on an attack against the company as a way to distract them. Lily thought that Victor would love to mess with them, mostly to hurt Billy, but she didn’t think that was his main goal – or Adam’s. She said that if they were so focused on protecting themselves against an attack, they wouldn’t look too closely at something else. “Like Gaines disappearing off the face of the earth,” Billy said. Lily asked if Victor could’ve convinced Gaines to leave Ashland alone. Billy didn’t think so. He thought Lily was on to something and that there was more going on here.

Billy said Gaines Jr. hated Ashland from the minute he showed up and caught the eye of Camilla Rhodes and her attorney, Gaines Sr. Ashland had been showered with love and affection, almost like he was Senior’s son, and Junior felt like a disappointment. Gaines Jr. showed up in Tuscany with a lifetime of anger and bitterness at the man that he felt stole his father from him. Gaines Jr. said he would release the video if ChancComm didn’t, and yet, he hadn’t. Billy didn’t think that Gaines changed his mind. He thought Gaines was stopped from posting it. Billy didn’t think Victor paid Gaines off, since it was about more than money to Gaines. She asked if he was suggesting Victor made Gaines disappear, because that wasn’t really his style. He said maybe not, but he wouldn’t put it past Adam.

Billy said that if Gaines posted the video, it would’ve affected the Newman/Locke merger and Newman Media. Billy was so focused on making sure Victoria knew the truth, that he didn’t think about the hit Ashland’s bottom line would take. Lily said even though it wasn’t about the money for Gaines, it was for the others. Billy said Adam would do the dirty work to impress his father. Billy thought Lily was right – Victor went after them with so much bluster to distract them from looking into how Gaines disappeared and how far Adam would go to do what Ashland needed him to do, and more importantly, what his father wanted him to do. Lily said that if Adam did something to hurt Gaines… Billy said if they got justice for Gaines and stopped Newman Media in their threat, ChancComm would become the threat and the ones to crush the competition.

Devon was walking into Society when he overheard the chef quitting. The lady explained that she wanted to go to a new restaurant and create her own menu. Abby didn’t want to stray from Lola’s menu, but she offered to let the woman add a few of her own dishes. The lady accepted the offer, and she left. Devon liked how Abby handled things. Abby missed Lola, not just as a chef, but as a friend. She’d thought they’d be in this restaurant together. She said there were no guarantees in life about anything. He realized this was about Chance. She was having a hard time. She didn’t realize Chance would be gone this long – he hadn’t even gotten to hold his own son. She woke up crying sometimes. She wasn’t sure how much more of this she could stand.

Abby admired Chance’s need to protect and help people. She’d just never expected him to get called away by the feds. She said he joined the GCPD because he wanted to settle down, but they never got to do that. She thought he’d be gone a couple weeks or a month. She never prepared herself to be gone for this long, and now it was more difficult because she had a baby. She said now was the time for Devon to tell her everything would be alright. He said she didn’t need him to tell her that, because she already she knew things would be alright and that Chance was doing everything in his power to get back to her and the baby. Abby wished Chance never took the case, and Devon said she had every right to feel that way. He assured her that she could handle everything life threw at her, and she really didn’t have a choice now that she had her little boy. Devon added that she had him and her family too.

At Crimson Lights, Adam couldn’t wait to see what Sally had planned next for Newman Media. Sally couldn’t wait to show him. Chloe ran into them and wondered why they were hanging out. She assumed they’d made their relationship personal, and she asked if something happened in Tuscany. Adam told Chloe not to let her imagination get the best of her. Sally said she and Adam went their separate ways after the airport and bumped into each other on the way to Crimson Lights by coincidence. Adam added that nothing happened in Tuscany that Chloe needed to be concerned about. He had a meeting, so he left.

Chloe told Sally that Lauren tore her to shreds. Lauren wasn’t happy her designer’s dress got tossed aside for Lauren’s. Sally knew there was a possibility Lauren would be mad at her, but she hated that Chloe got caught in the crossfire. Chloe admitted she probably had it coming, since she could’ve warned Lauren in advance. Sally pointed out that Lauren would’ve told Victoria what was going on, and that would’ve ruined Sally and Chloe’s scheme. Chloe asked Sally not to call it a scheme, because that made her feel even worse. Chloe said they had a plan and they executed it, and now she just had to deal with the consequences of her actions. No big deal. Sally contended that it was a big deal because Chloe and Lauren were family. Sally decided to pretend she did all this behind Chloe’s back. Chloe said it was too late, because she already told Lauren that she knew what Sally was doing. Sally asked if there was anything she could do. Lauren walked up and snapped that Sally had done enough.

Lauren said she had to fire Sally for scheming to get Summer out of the country. However, Lauren had mistakenly assumed Sally would still respect her. Lauren called Sally conniving and self serving. Sally said she had to restore her reputation. Lauren thought Sally had a funny way of showing it. Lauren yelled that Sally stole her designer’s dress and replaced it with her own, right before the ceremony. Sally said she didn’t steal the other dress, she moved it and Victoria had the chance to decide which one to wear. She didn’t expect Lauren to understand. Lauren said that she did understand. Lauren felt that Sally loved to give big speeches proving herself, but the truth was Sally only cared about her own success. Lauren predicted that Sally was going to alienate everyone in Genoa City sooner rather than later. Lauren wouldn’t be sorry when Sally inevitably moved away. Sally left. Lauren admitted she’d been a little harsh on Chloe yesterday. Chloe thought Lauren had every right to be. She was so sorry. Lauren said that Chloe did something misguided, not vicious and conniving. “I say this out of love. Cut her loose. Do not continue to work with her. She will betray you too and you will end up in the exact same position I am,” Lauren said.

Adam went to The Grand Phoenix. Chelsea called. They talked about the wedding. He was surprised he got invited, but he was glad he went. She called to talk about the email from Connor’s school. Adam announced that he already told the school that Connor should be accelerated to the next course in math. Chelsea wasn’t happy that Adam handled it without her. He said he called her, and she didn’t answer. He said he was Connor’ father, and he could make decisions. He asked if she didn’t agree with his choice. She approved of moving Connor to the next course, so Adam wondered what the problem was. Chelsea said it wasn’t her fault she wasn’t there. He knew. He ended the call when Devon showed up. Adam vented that Chelsea was picking a fight with him because she felt pushed aside as a parent. Devon thought Chelsea’s feelings were understandable. Adam agreed, but he was trying to do what was right for his son, and he wished Chelsea wasn’t taking it out on him. Devon was very impressed with the way Adam was stepping up for Connor. He thought it was important to be present as a parent, and a lot of parents didn’t understand that.

Devon said he was filling in for Nick, who was still in Europe. Devon got the sense there was something going on with Nick, Victor and Adam. Adam said that there had just been a little disagreement. They finished the meeting and said they missed being neighbors. Devon suggested that Adam call Chelsea and make things right so that they didn’t fester. Adam didn’t see why he was the one who had to extend the olive branch. Devon said that Adam was the one who got to go home to Connor while Chelsea felt left out. Devon advised taking the high road. Devon left. Adam took the advice and called Chelsea. He admitted he was wrong to make the decision on Connor without her. The tension briefly lifted, but they got into it again because she couldn’t tell him when she would be back in Genoa City. He didn’t understand why she was hesitating. Sally walked in and overheard. The call ended.

Sally asked Adam if he was okay, and he said the mother of his son just hung up on him, other than that he was fine. She asked if he was really fine. He gruffly noted that he’d already said he was, and he asked what she wanted. Sally started to walk away, and Adam apologized and asked her to sit with him. She told him about her run in with Lauren. He told her not to worry about it, since she didn’t work for Lauren, and Victoria chose to wear the dress. Sally felt bad because Lauren’s opinion mattered to her. Adam had been there done that many times. He told her not to beat herself up about it, since it wasn’t like she committed a crime against Lauren. He said this was business, and Sally won this round, Lauren might win the next. Sally wished she could do something to make Adam feel better. Adam said a productive day would make him feel better, or at least distract him. He went to his second meeting.

Tessa entered her suite excited to see Mariah, but she wasn’t there. She put a gift box for Mariah on the table then gave her a call. Mariah didn’t answer. Tessa looked concerned, but when she left her voice mail, she just said she was home and she figured something had come up with Mariah.

Mariah was at the Chancellor house to drop off some breast milk and check on Dominic. The nanny acted like Mariah was intruding, and Mariah asked if something was wrong, because Abby said she was welcome anytime. The nanny explained that she’d just gotten the baby to sleep, and it was difficult. When Mariah sympathized, the nanny softened. Mariah suggested the nanny take a break while Mariah spent a minute with the baby. The lady said she’d give Mariah a few minutes, and she walked away. Mariah picked up Dominic and confided in him that she was kind of a mess because she didn’t know how to let go of her connection to him. She assured him she’d get to where she needed to be, but it was just so hard on her and everyone around her, especially Tessa. Mariah was scared she and Tessa weren’t on the same page about their future. Mariah was leaving, but then she heard Dominic cooing, and she decided to stay.

Abby came home and found Mariah reading a book to Dominic. Mariah hoped Abby didn’t mind her dropping by. Abby said it was a pleasant surprise, and Mariah was welcome any time. Abby had actually expected Mariah to come by earlier, since she didn’t go to Italy. Mariah said she wanted to be in town in case Dominic’s cold got worse and Abby needed her, but she didn’t want to overstep. Abby didn’t want things to be awkward between them. Mariah said she brought breast milk. She knew that Abby was talking about weaning him off it, though. Abby appreciated it but the doctor supported her plan to put Dominic on formula, so she wouldn’t need any more milk after this. Abby wasn’t trying to shut Mariah out, and she hoped this wasn’t a problem.

Mariah said that providing milk for Dominic made her feel like she had a unique role in his life, and it was hard to hear she was no longer needed, but she understood. Before the surrogacy, Mariah felt incredibly smart and savvy, but she didn’t realize how intense this would be. She said she needed to get back to herself. One of the reasons she didn’t go to Italy was because she didn’t want to be there putting on a smile while she wasn’t in the mood. While Tessa wasn’t thrilled Mariah skipped the trip, Mariah needed time for herself and for doing some deep reflection.

Devon came to check on Abby. Mariah said she loved Abby and Devon, and they all had a bond through bringing Dominic into the world. She would cherish it forever. She admitted she was having a hard time letting Dominic go and sorting through the emotions, especially for someone who didn’t like dealing with messy emotions, but she was working on it, and she was feeling much better. Devon and Abby were happy to hear that. Abby said that she was thrilled to walk in and see Mariah with Dominic. She wanted Mariah to have a big role in Dom’s life, but only when she was ready for it. Mariah said she was ready. Devon said they were still the baby Chancellor crew, or now, the Baby Dominic crew. Abby loved that. Mariah left. Abby told Devon she was in a better place now, so he didn’t have to stick around and be her cheerleader. He felt like she was kicking him out. She wasn’t kicking him out, but she was sure he had things to do. While she’d love nothing more than for him to hang out with her all afternoon, it wasn’t necessary. He said he’d come back and check on her later because she could always count on him. He left. Abby looked in on Dominic and wondered where Chance was.

Mariah got home and saw a sleeping Tessa and the gift. It was a little teddy bear in a gondolier outfit. Tessa admitted in the accompanying note that she bought it at the airport because she didn’t have time to shop in Italy, but she thought of Mariah constantly. Mariah took Tessa’s hand and woke her up. Mariah was sorry she wasn’t here earlier. She thought Tessa was due to arrive later. Tessa said her flight landed early. Mariah said she did a lot of thinking, and she made some important decisions that they’d talk about later, because she knew Tessa was tired. Tessa closed her eyes, and Mariah smoothed her hair.

When Adam woke up, Sally happened to be outside his door. He asked if she slept well. Jack was walking by and overheard Sally say she got more sleep than she would’ve if she spent the night with Adam. Sally told Jack she was just thanking Adam for bringing her here. She brought up her success with the dress. Jack didn’t think this was any of his business. Sally left to pack. Adam told Jack that Sally was just a friend. Jack didn’t think he was owed an explanation. Adam said he wasn’t standing in Jack’s way if he was interested in Sally. Jack clarified that that ship sailed long ago. Jack sensed something was going on with Adam and Sally, and he warned Adam to be careful and remember the adage about playing with fire. Jack left.

Lily woke up and reached for Billy, who was already awake and using his phone. He told her that he didn’t sleep last night. He stated that Victor openly declared war on him and ChancComm. Lily wasn’t surprised, since Victor had been dying to go after ChancComm. Billy felt like the timer was about to go off. She suggested Victor was just trying to rattle him, and it seemed to be working since he couldn’t sleep. He said he wasn’t intimidated, he was motivated to be prepared. He looked online to see if Gaines followed through with the threat to post the video if ChancComm didn’t.

Lily and Billy both looked, and they saw no evidence that Gaines posted the video. Billy thought it was weird. Lily suggested that Gaines backed down, like Ashland said. Billy took whatever Ashland said with a grain of salt. She was just glad ChancComm didn’t post the video, so they could move on. He said that if they’d posted the video, they could’ve controlled the narrative. She felt that there were a thousand reasons not to post it, one of which was that he deleted the video. He noted that there was other evidence backing up what Gaines said. She reminded him that running the story could permanently damage his relationship with the mother of his children. He decided to go for a walk to think about what to do.

When Phyllis woke up, she saw that Nick was already packing. She guessed he couldn’t wait to get out of here. She asked when they were leaving, and he informed her that he wasn’t going back to Genoa City right now. He was going to spend a few days with Noah in London. She was caught off guard to learn that she’d be going to Genoa City alone. He invited her to come if she wanted. “If I want,” she repeated. She said it was fine; she had to get back to the hotel. He understood, and he promised he’d be home soon. That wasn’t the response she expected, and she asked if they were okay. He said they were fine, he just had a lot to sort out and some time with Noah and away from the family would do him some good. She just felt there had been some added tension between them for awhile. She said Jack called her crazy for thinking that way, but she didn’t agree. She felt like she and Nick were in a tricky spot where either the relationship would work out or fall apart. He thought she was being too dramatic. He said he’d had a complicated frustrating couple of weeks which wasn’t her fault. He said he told his dad that no good deed went unpunished. The lesson never seemed to sink in for Nick, he said, but this time had to be different.

Phyllis said that she wanted to agree with Nick when he talked about his family, but every time she did, he took issue with it. He was sorry. He was just going through complex feelings about his family. She knew. He asked if he talked to Jack about that too and if it was awkward for Jack. Phyllis said Jack was a confidante and she trusted him – he wanted Nick and Phyllis to be happy. Nick asked if Jack was the best person to go to. Phyllis said she couldn’t find Nick, and she went to the person who was there, no offense. Noah came in and suggested they go say goodbye to the family, but Nick wanted to just leave. Noah said he got where Nick was coming from. Noah asked Phyllis if she was coming, and she said she had to get back to the hotel.

Phyllis went to the Palazzo living room and talked with Jack. Sally overheard Phyllis ask if she could ride home on the Jabot jet because she’d be traveling solo. Jack asked if this meant things were worse now. Phyllis said she took Jack’s advice and things were good with her and Nick. He was glad to have the company on the flight, since it was going to be a long trip back by himself. He already missed Kyle, Summer and Harrison. She did too.

Victoria, Ashland, Nikki and Victor had breakfast on the patio. Ashland mentioned that it had been harder to say goodbye to Harrison than he expected, but he could tell that his son seemed genuinely happy in Milan. Victoria thanked her parents for the magical wedding. Victor gave Nikki the lion’s share of the credit, and he said he just kept the wolves at bay. Nikki was glad Billy and Gaines were prevented from ruining the wedding. When Victor went to refill his glass, Victoria went with him and asked for the whole story. He didn’t want her to worry about it, but she felt she needed to know how Gaines was handled and if he’d need to be handled again.

Victor would only say he neutralized the threat. Victoria thanked Victor again. He told her she should be grateful to Adam too because he saved this wedding. Adam joined breakfast and thanked the newlyweds for including him. Victor was happy to see Victoria and Adam put their differences aside. Nikki didn’t look impressed. Victoria thanked Adam for saving the wedding. Adam said that families look out for each other. Victor thought there might be hope for Newman family unity. Everyone laughed about how Leslie accidentally caught the bouquet and seemed unhappy about it. Nikki said that if Sally had been there, she would’ve knocked Leslie over to catch it. Noah came and said goodbye, then he pulled Nikki aside and told her that Nick was leaving with him. He said Nick wanted to say goodbye to Nikki. Nikki excused herself. Noah was surprised Adam didn’t wreak havoc, as usual. Adam said sometimes havoc could be overrated, and he liked to keep people on their toes.

Nikki went to Nick’s room. She hated the family rift. He did too. She brought up the way he was trying to leave without a goodbye. He thought it was for the best, to prevent another argument. He just wanted Victoria to have happy memories of the wedding, and he didn’t want to have any more harsh words with his sister. She asked what about his father. He said his issues with Victor were nothing new. He was over the way Victor pitted the kids against each other. Nick wasn’t sure if he and Victoria would ever fix things. Nikki was confident that they would, since they’d been through worse and gotten past it. He said he wasn’t the one she needed to convince.

Sally saw Nick and Noah leaving and wished them a safe flight. Despite knowing Phyllis wasn’t traveling with them, Sally asked if Phyllis was already in the car. Nick replied that Phyllis was traveling separately. Sally said she hoped there wasn’t trouble in paradise. She asked if Phyllis dumped ice water on him too. Adam walked up and wished them safe travels.

Victor wanted to talk with Nick alone. Billy was in the background and saw them together. Nick didn’t have time to talk right now. Victor didn’t want to leave things like this between them. Nick said Victor should’ve never let things get to this point. He and Noah left. Adam asked Sally to give him a private moment with his dad, and she left the room. Victor told Adam they were going to crush ChancComm. Adam hoped Victor considered the potential ramifications. Victor said Billy almost ruined this wonderful wedding, and he went after Ashland, who was now a member of the Newman family. Victor said that anyone who attacked Ashland attacked all the Newmans, and if Adam was a full fledged member of the family, he’d think of a line of attack. Adam said he was no longer opposed to going into battle with Billy. He promised his full support.

Adam went back to his room and flashed to kissing Sally and putting the breaks on because he wasn’t ready. She’d suggested a one night stand. He returned to the present and Sally walked into his room. He assumed she must be on top of the world after her big success. She said she was ready, and this was just the beginning.

Nick went back to Phyllis because he wanted a proper goodbye. He didn’t want her to worry and overthink things. He just needed a couple days. She asked if they could get back to being the happy and carefree couple, and he said yes. He kissed her on the cheek, and they hugged. Nick left, and Phyllis stared out the window. Jack walked in.

Billy went back to his room and told Lily that he overheard Victor and Adam planning an all out war against ChancComm and throwing the full weight of the Newman family against them. He said they had to strike first to protect themselves – the best defense was a massive offense.

Victoria and Ashland were alone on the patio. They agreed that they’d had a glorious time, and now it was time to begin a new chapter with all the challenges that entailed. He was ready to take any treatment that would extend his life, because he needed more time with her. She said that was the most beautiful thing he’d ever said to her. He promised nothing would get in their way – together they were an unstoppable force. “My new wife and I are about to conquer the world,” he said, and they kissed.

Chloe and Kevin were at Society, talking about Sally’s success in Italy when Lauren and Michael rushed in. Lauren declared that Sally was back to her old tricks. She said she tried to tell Chloe that Sally couldn’t be trusted. Chloe asked what Lauren heard. Michael said he’d made the innocent mistake of showing Lauren a photo someone posted from the wedding. Lauren explained that her designer made a beautiful wedding dress for Victoria, but Victoria wore a dress designed by Sally. Lauren was sorry Chloe had to deal with this. Chloe admitted she’d known in advance what Sally was planning to do.

Lauren wanted an explanation. Now. Chloe explained how Sally came to design the dress and to to Italy to get it to Victoria. Chloe said she tried to explain to Sally that it was a bad idea, but there was no stopping her. Chloe said that Victoria must’ve been blown away by the dress and she wore it. Michael thought that was an amusing twist, but Lauren didn’t see the humor. She felt betrayed by Chloe and couldn’t believe she’d condone something so underhanded.

Lauren said Sally had been nothing but trouble ever since she set foot in the town. Michael didn’t think anyone at the table could throw stones. Lauren said some of them had lived to regret that, but Sally didn’t regret anything. Chloe said she didn’t do anything underhanded in the dress situation. Chloe had no idea Victoria would actually wear Sally’s dress, but Chloe wasn’t sorry that Victoria wore the dress. Chloe hoped Lauren would understand that she was trying to run a business. This turn of events had made Newman Media a household name. Lauren said that she and Chloe were family, and Fenmore’s took a hit because of this. Chloe asked Lauren to try and see it from her viewpoint. Chloe said that Fenmore’s was already a hallowed institution and the designer would make many beautiful dresses this year. Chloe said she and Sally needed this moment in the spotlight. Lauren thought Chloe should’ve told her what she and Sally were up to. Chloe admitted that was true. She was sorry. Lauren said Chloe should be. Lauren and Michael left. Sally and Chloe talked on the phone about Sally’s success with the dress. There was something Chloe wanted to say, but Sally said she had to go or she’d miss her ride. The call ended. Chloe told Kevin she just didn’t have the heart to bring Sally down by telling her Lauren was out for blood.

At Crimson Lights, Lauren said Sally wasn’t going to get away with this and not to even get her started on Chloe. Michael thought Lauren was being too hard on Chloe, who didn’t mean to hurt Lauren. Lauren said she’d eventually forgive Chloe, but not Sally. She thought that someone had to put a stop to the stunts.

Victor and Adam were in the palazzo living room wondering what Nick was upset about. Nick insisted on talking to Victor alone. Adam wasn’t usually amenable to being kicked out, but in this case, he’d go. He left. Victor asked what Nick needed to get off his chest. Nick stated that Victor kept him in the dark about Gaines. He added that Victor asked him to look into Ashland’s past. Nick did so and found a bunch of damaging information that nobody seemed to care about. Nick felt like he’d become the bad guy, and Victoria would barely talk to him. “Why are you not on my side on this? Why did you kick me out of the loop and you turned to Adam?,” Nick asked. Nick wondered if Adam was doing Victor’s dirty work. It made him feel like Victor was back to his old tricks, playing his children against each other. Victor laughed and asked if Nick was finished. He was. Victor said he left Nick out of the loop because he came here to try and mend fences with his sister. Victor assumed that Nick wouldn’t be eager to help protect Ashland.

Nick said he didn’t like or trust Ashland and he probably never would, but it didn’t matter because Victoria made her choice. He added that it didn’t matter what they found out about Ashland since no one except Nick seemed to care. Victor was sorry Nick felt that way. He’d thought this would be a happy occasion for the family. Nick sarcastically suggested raising a glass to the lying conniving criminal that they’d added to the family. Victor had assumed he was doing Nick a favor by keeping him out of the loop about this lowlife, Gaines. Victor said they’d dealt with Gaines, and he wasn’t going to be a problem anymore. Nick was concerned about exactly what Victor did to Gaines. Victor would only say that the situation was handled with discretion, so Nick shouldn’t worry about it. Nick noted that Victor made a big speech earlier about putting family first, and he asked if those were just words. “You can’t possibly think that,” Victor replied. Nick asked why Victor’s reaction to Victoria being threatened was to fracture the family instead of uniting it. Victor said Billy brought Gaines here, and Victor took care of the threat. Nick complained that Victor shut him out. He said no good deed went unpunished, but bad deeds were rewarded – everything Ashland did was accepted, and now he was merged into the family. Nick reiterated that he was kept in the dark about Gaines while Victor, Adam and Victoria closed ranks. Nick was trying to figure out how to get Victoria to forgive him. Nick said it was getting awfully hard to figure out what was considered right and wrong in this family. He stormed off.

Phyllis was in her room when Summer texted to ask where she was because they were about to cut the cake. Phyllis was heading to the reception when she ran into Jack, who said he was going to check on Harrison. Phyllis surmised that Jack had decided to duck out of the party early. She knew it was hard to be single at these things. He said it wasn’t that, but she knew it was. He sighed and admitted she was right. He found it annoying that he wasn’t able to lie to her. He said that the back to back weddings and romance and perfect couples got a little annoying. She asked if Sally and Adam were one of the couples annoying him. He said he had no feelings for Sally, except feeling embarrassed for her. He thought the whole wedding dress switch showed Sally couldn’t change. He felt a bit lonely when everyone was going to the dance floor in pairs except him. She said she’d go with him and be his wingman and introduce him to women, but he didn’t want that. He was sick of talking about his lack of a love life, especially with her. He asked where Nick was. She said he went to go talk to his father and get some things off his chest, because it wasn’t a Newman affair without chaos.

Phyllis didn’t want to go to the party anymore, and she invited Jack to her room for a drink and then a jump in the fountain. He was willing to do the drink, but he said he’d hold her shoes while she jumped in the fountain. When they got to her room, he noted that she’d already been drinking the prosecco. She was tired of all the misunderstandings with Nick. He was sorry they were fighting. She said they were just little squabbles because Nick wouldn’t let her help him. She said Nick kept telling her things that were happening with his family then he’d get annoyed when she shared her opinion, which lead to Phyllis getting annoyed that Nick didn’t take her advice. Jack said that only family could complain about family, and if someone else chimed in, the family members would circle the wagons. Phyllis said that was exactly what was happening – Nick criticized Victoria, and when Phyllis agreed with him, he’d tell her not to be critical. Jack thought everyone did that. He asked what she would say if he called Nick awful. She smiled and admitted she’d stand up for Nick. She said she didn’t know how to help Nick, and she guessed this was a tricky part of a relationship.

Jack told Phyllis that sometimes people just wanted to be heard, and they wanted people to listen without offering to fix the problem. Phyllis felt like Nick was refusing to let her in. Jack suggested backing off and giving Nick some space. He reminded Phyllis that she said she and Nick were in a good place and they were happy. Phyllis wondered if she needed problems in a relationship. She said she and Nick were the most carefree, fun and romantic that they’d ever been, Summer was happy, and the hotel was great. Everything should be fabulous, but every time she said something, it seemed to create a flareup. Phyllis wondered if she was the problem. “Maybe I just need issues and drama and conflict to feel like I’m engaged in a relationship. Maybe I’m that person. Maybe I need to fight,” Phyllis said. Jack didn’t think that was the case. He thought that Phyllis was engaging in self-sabotage with this kind of talk, and he wasn’t going to let her do that. He conceded that she was once drawn to drama, but he thought she’d changed and that she could be happy without it.

Elena and Nate went out to the patio from the reception. He twirled and dipped her, and they shared a kiss before Sally cleared her throat, alerting them that they weren’t alone. Elena and Nate were embarrassed, and Elena said she felt like a teen who just got caught making out at a dance. Sally didn’t want to stifle romance, she just didn’t want to be a casualty of their passion. She heard Nate’s speech from out here, and she congratulated him because it was great. Elena congratulated Sally for designing the dress. Nate asked who Sally’s date was. She said it was Adam, though he wasn’t really her date. She explained that he got called away on family business, and she wasn’t really sure what that meant. She thought she may have been stood up. Nate suggested they head back to the party as a trio, and he and Sally could have a dance, if Elena didn’t mind. Elena was fine with it. Sally didn’t want to be a third wheel. She suggested that Elena and Nate go take a moonlit walk in the garden. Sally was going to grab some cake and turn in. They all went their separate ways just as Adam returned looking for Sally.

Adam found Nick brooding on the patio and assumed the talk with Victor went poorly. Nick asked what happened to Gaines. Adam would only say it had been handled, and Nick said Adam sounded like Victor. Adam said he and Victor were just trying to keep the peace. Adam asked if Nick wanted him to try and mediate with Victor or Victoria. Nick wasn’t interested. When Adam offered again, Nick said Adam must feel good about infiltrating the Newman family. Adam said he wasn’t infiltrating – he was mending fences because family was important to him. He thought that was what they all wanted. Nick got up and walked away.

At a private spot on the patio, Noah gave the crying Tessa a handkerchief and said he couldn’t help worrying about her and his sister. She told him not to because it was going to be okay. He thought she and Mariah could work things out, but he hated seeing her so upset. He understood his sister had been through a lot, but it was hard for the people supporting her too. He made a comparison and said when Sharon was sick, it took a toll on her family, including him. Tessa felt guilty for being upset, since Mariah was the one who’d went through the trauma of abduction, childbirth and having to give the baby back to the biological mom. Noah was sure it was hard for Tessa when Mariah asked her to have a baby right away.

Tessa wanted to respect what Mariah wanted. She wasn’t sure Mariah even understood what she was asking of her. Noah was sure that Tessa and Mariah would make the right choice for themselves. Tessa changed the subject and said she wanted to hear about Noah and his love life. He said misfortune befell him, and she teased that they were in a Charles Dickens novel. He said he fell for an artful dodger, then he was saved by a barmaid with a big heart. She assumed that didn’t have a happy ending, since they were in a Dickens novel. She repeated what he’d said to her earlier – that he could tell her everything. Noah fell pretty hard for this woman. She was an artist too, and they’d stay up all night talking. He’d never had those sort of conversations with anyone he dated before, except Tessa. Tessa remembered her all night talks with Noah. Noah’s ex found someone else and left him without a second thought. Tessa was sorry.

Elena and Nate came back to the patio after their walk in the garden. They’d played bocce and it didn’t go well because they were tipsy and didn’t know what they were doing. She thought it was nice to be in a different world. He’d enjoyed not talking about medicine with people. She’d talked to a random couple earlier, and they recommended a gelato place. He thought he’d be able to order in Italian, since a lot of the phrases he learned as a kid were coming back. She’d picked up a few words too, and they went back and forth saying words in Italian. He called her beautiful in Italian, then she said the Italian word for love.

Elena didn’t want this trip to end. He said they’d bring part of Italy home with them, through their memories. He said he’d never forget how she looked in the moonlight. She’d never forget him almost knocking over a statue with a bocce ball. They heard music playing, and they danced.

Adam went to his room and had just closed his eyes when there was a knock on the door. It was Sally. She said she was trying to figure out why he left her to fend for herself in a palazzo of people who didn’t like her. He said he looked and he couldn’t find her, so he assumed she went to bed. She didn’t sound mad when she called him a liar, theorizing that he walked by the place that he left her, saw that she wasn’t there, then called it a night. She made herself at home and poured a drink so they could toast to their success. He was sorry he got pulled away. He toasted to her. She told him about all the social media followers their company got thanks to the dress. He gave her credit for putting Newman Media on the map. He said it was like she willed it to happen. She’d had a lot of plans that didn’t work out, so it was a little surreal that this one did. She admitted her plan to win over the Newman family didn’t work out, but she did get a few compliments on the dress, especially from Nate and Elena. She said the only person she was interested in winning over right now was Adam. She kissed him, and he reciprocated.

Adam and Sally moved to the bed, and things were heating up, when he suddenly put a stop to it. He wasn’t ready for this. Sally said she wasn’t looking for commitment – what happened in Tuscany stayed in Tuscany. She said she wouldn’t even flirt with him once they were in the office. He called her a liar in the same tone she used earlier. He said she didn’t do things halfway, and he didn’t think she’d be satisfied with one night with him. He stroked her hair and said he couldn’t give her what she wanted right now. He said it wasn’t a reflection on her. Next time he got involved with someone, it had to be all or nothing, and he wasn’t emotionally ready for “all,” now. He thought it’d be wrong to pretend he was ready, and spend one night with her, when he could tell she wanted more. She said that only made him seem more thoughtful, decent and sexy. She wasn’t giving up hope that one day he’d be ready for “all,” and she hoped it was with her. He kissed her on the cheek.

Jack was still in Phyllis and Nick’s room, with the door open. He and Phyllis were sitting on the edge of the bed. He was sure she and Nick could work through this. She hoped so. She wrapped her arms around one of his arms and rested her head on his shoulder. He said he was rooting for her and Nick, especially for her. Sally passed by the room, and she saw Phyllis leaning against Jack. Sally pulled out her phone and took a couple pictures of Jack and Phyllis without them noticing.

Lily and Billy were in their room. She finished her makeup and told him that dancing was her favorite thing about weddings. He suggested skipping the reception and having the night to themselves. She asked if he wanted to skip it because he was upset the wedding took place. He said he was just feeling amorous toward her, and he didn’t like the fact that she’d question that. She pointed out that he’d been trying to stop the wedding for weeks, which was why he flew Gaines here. He assured her that he was fine with the way things worked out, and that was why he deleted the video from Gaines. She was proud he took the high road, but she was wondering if his ego was a little bruised and he wanted to avoid the party to sulk. He denied sulking. He said he was celebrating the fact that he was with her and he loved her. If he had to go to the reception, he’d do just that to prove how much he loved her. She decided that they could stay in the room together.

Later, Lily was in bed, and she saw Billy up and staring out the window. She told him he looked like the marble statues from the garden. He said he was having one of those good/bad brainstorms. Apprehensive, she asked what he was thinking. He was thinking of a way to get out of this mess with Victor and Gaines while benefiting ChancComm. He thought they should do a story – “The Life and Times of Jesse Gaines.” Instead of making Ashland the bad guy, they’d make Gaines the bad guy – a loser who contributed nothing to society, who made a career out of blackmailing people. Lily asked why Billy couldn’t just let it go. He said he paid a duffel bag full of cash for the story. She reminded him that he promised Victoria he’d let it go. He clarified that he never said he wouldn’t publish something. He said the Newmans couldn’t get upset if the story was about Gaines. She said they’d get more than upset. He said they’d deal with it. This was the only way he could think of rising from the ashes of this trip.

Lily asked how Billy was going to do a story on Gaines without details on who he was blackmailing and why. He knew it was going to be difficult, but there had to be a way to do it wihtout dragging Ashland through the mud. She felt like he was obsessed, which he denied. She asked why he couldn’t let this go – some secrets were meant to stay buried. He said maybe. She heard their song being played outside, and she asked him to come back to bed. He did.

Later, Billy got dressed and slipped out without waking Lily. He went into the living room and asked what Victor did to Gaines. Victor claimed not to know what Billy was talking about. Billy said Gaines sent him an exclusive video that would’ve blown up Ashland’s secret to the entire world. Billy said he did the right thing and deleted it to protect Victoria. He wanted Victor to tell him how he got rid of Gaines. Victor said that Billy only did the right thing after doing a lot of wrong things. Victor added that Victoria was no longer any of Billy’s business. “The gloves are coming off. You find another career. Another life. I will take everything you own from you,” Victor said.

Almost everyone mingled on the patio after the wedding. Jack told Victoria she’d never looked more lovely. She thanked him and asked if he’d seen her kids. He saw them with the nanny earlier. She mentioned that the kids were a happy trio. He thanked her for including Kyle and Summer. He thought that Harrison seeing all the adults gathered together in a show of love and support was a good thing. She said they were one big happy family. Nikki came over to tell Victoria it was time to put on her reception gown. Jack complimented the wedding dress, and he was caught off guard when Victoria said Sally designed it. After Victoria and Nikki left, Jack joined Phyllis to ask if Nick would be a the reception. Phyllis wasn’t sure since he wasn’t answering her texts. Jack told Phyllis about the wedding dress. Phyllis said that Victoria treated Nick like dirt, but then she wore Sally’s design and hugged her. It made Phyllis sick.

Victoria and Nikki ran into Victor and Adam. They’d noticed Victor’s absence. He said he and Adam were making sure the reception would be as spectacular as the wedding was beautiful. Nikki and Victoria went inside. Ashland came to check in with Victor. Victor said that Nick stopped Gaines from interrupting the wedding. Gaines was locked in the storage room now, and Victor said Ashland could talk to him if he wanted to.

Ashland went to the storage room and told Gaines that his plan didn’t work out like he thought. Gaines said the day was young, and there might be a reversal of fortunes. Ashland said that Gaines made a colossal miscalculation coming here, and how it turned out would depend on Gaines. Ashland asked what Gaines wanted. Gaines said it wasn’t about the money anymore. “I wanted you to experience the same humiliation and degradation that I felt seeing my father embracing you while ignoring his own flesh and blood. Do you have any idea what that’s like?,” Gaines asked. Ashland admitted he did know what that was like. He would’ve given anything to experience his father’s love. He explained that he ran away from home because his father beat him on a regular basis. Ashland didn’t see how it was his fault that Gaines got hurt. Ashland said he had a connection with Camilla, and he met Gaines Sr. by happenstance. He never sought out Senior’s admiration. Ashland said that Camilla turned her back on him in the end – he and Gaines had both been let down, and all they could do was move forward. Gaines asked if Ashland was telling himself that he made his own way. Ashland said he found out what he wanted and he went for it, but it seemed like Gaines wanted to take the easy way out, and even then, Gaines didn’t seem to be able to figure out what he wanted. Ashland asked if Gaines wanted to blackmail him or punish him, or take Victor’s money and run or play Victor against Billy. Gaines asked why he couldn’t have it all. Ashland yelled that life didn’t work that way. Ashland said he and Victor both gave Gaines money, and he could’ve been a wealthy man, but he botched this. Gaines asked what Ashland was going to do – turn him over to the authorities? Make him disappear? Ashland said he and the Newmans didn’t decide yet, but the last thing he wanted was to deal with this on his wedding day. He locked Gaines in the storage closet and left.

Sally and Adam talked alone, and she asked if it was okay. He said he was dealing with family issues. He wanted to talk about what she pulled off. He thought she should be happy and proud of herself. She guessed she was. He said he never should’ve doubted her. She didn’t realize he did. He said there was one thing to have talent, but it was another to have the drive to back it up. It was a combination you didn’t see every day. He thought she may have changed a few of her adversaries minds about her.

Victoria and Nikki were upstairs in the bedroom. Victoria felt like she was walking on a cloud. Nikki wanted to talk about the dress. Victoria said that Sally’s impressive sales pitch was what made her try on the dress. When she tried it on, it felt meant to be. Nikki hoped Victoria didn’t approve of Sally’s deception in switching the dresses, especially after what she did to Summer. Victoria didn’t, but that didn’t mean she was going to get angry about how this worked out. The dress was flawless and exactly what she wanted her wedding gown to be. The best things came out of the most improbable situations, she said.

Victoria told Nikki this was the best day of her entire life. She said she and Ashland were thinking of working from the Palazzo part time. She thanked Nikki for what she and Victor did for her, not just for the Palazzo but for making this wedding as magical as she and Ashland both hoped it’d be. Victoria was able to put some of her anxiety aside because she knew Victor would handle things. Nikki said that Victor would never allow anyone to ruin a moment of her wedding day.

Billy and Lily were in the living room talking about Gaines’ video that outlined Ashland’s crimes. If they didn’t publish it within the hour, Gaines was threatening to do it himself. She reminded him that they already agreed not to run the Gaines story, and he countered that if they didn’t, someone else would, and if they published it, they could control the narrative. She didn’t like Gaines pushing them into a corner. He said either way, the world was about to learn about Ashland’s crimes. Jack walked in and overheard Lily ask what about Victoria. He asked what was going on. Billy covered and told Jack how he found Ashland having trouble breathing earlier. Jack said that was all the more reason to make this day as happy and memorable for Victoria and Ashland as possible. Jack left for the reception. Lily asked if they really wanted to be the ones to bring Locke down and ruin things for Victoria. Billy said that they could control the narrative and protect Victoria. Lily pointed out that Billy said he only wanted Victoria to know the truth. She wondered if he was trying to have this both ways.

Phyllis joined Nick in their bedroom, and he told her about his encounter with Gaines. He wasn’t surprised Ashland had another skeleton in the closet. He was upset because Victor had kicked him out of the loop and brought Adam in. He griped that Adam and Victor knew Gaines was here, and they’d had security looking for him, but no one told Nick. Nick said that was how his father was – one minute you were in the inner circle, and the next you were out. He said the Newmans were so focused on protecting the marriage and more importantly the merger. His parents and siblings had closed ranks about this guy who stole a dead kid’s identity, who probably let his best friend die in a burning car, then went to his job interview. Nick told Phyllis how Ashland built his fortune on his mentor’s stolen estate. He said that when Victor found out Gaines was in Tuscany, he did what he could to silence him and protect Locke. Nick didn’t understand why Ashland had such a tight grip on his family.

Phyllis didn’t think that Nick should be shocked Victor only confided in him when it was convenient for Victor. Nick used to think his relationship with Victor was in a good place. “[I thought] that he appreciated everything I was doing to protect Victoria by getting the truth about Ashland.” Phyllis told Nick that he was nothing like Victor, and that was why he worked so hard to build something separate from the family, but Victoria had all the qualities it took to run Newman. Phyllis said Victoria married a secretive merciless phony, and the family rallied around them anyway. Nick snapped that Ashland was a criminal, and Phyllis said Victor probably saw it as a badge of honor. Nick asked Phyllis not to use his frustrations as an opening to attack his family.

Phyllis was adamant that she wasn’t bashing his family. She said Nick was trying to do right by Victoria, just like Billy. He argued that it wasn’t like Billy, but she contended that ultimately Billy and Nick wanted the same thing. Phyllis said Victoria was a smart savvy businesswoman who should be able to make her own decisions. She said Victoria was no damsel in distress. Nick said he knew that. “Okay why do you have to rescue her? Why? Why do you have to ride in on your horse and rescue Victoria? You and all the Newmans and Billy,” Phyllis yelled.

Nick admitted Phyllis was right. He’d wanted to stop the wedding, but he didn’t because he loved his sister and he knew he didn’t have the right to tell her how to live her life, and neither did his father. He remembered that when he and Phyllis got back together, he hated the way his family treated her. He’d told them that it was his life. Phyllis was concerned that Nick was comparing her life to Ashland’s or that he thought being with her was a mistake. “No! What are you talking about?,” Nick asked. He said he wasn’t making that comparison at all.

Phyllis guessed she misunderstood, and she was sorry. She was glad he saw her point about Victoria. Nick said everyone had a past, and people had to choose whether or not to accept them for it. He said Victoria could live her life as she wanted to. He wasn’t happy that his dad was playing favorites and turned to Adam.

Tessa called Mariah, who she realized was probably asleep due to the time difference. Tessa said the wedding was perfect, and the only thing missing was Mariah. She just wished Mariah was here. After leaving the message, Tessa looked upset. Noah left the reception and came outside to check on her. She pretended she was great. He could tell she was surrounded by tons of people, ubt she felt alone. She asked if it was that obvious. He said he knew her pretty well, and she didn’t have to put up a front with him. She started crying, and she said that Mariah was shutting her out, and Tessa didn’t know what to do.

Noah couldn’t imagine how Mariah’s ordeal affected her. Tessa said for weeks it was Mariah and Bowie against the world. Noah questioned Bowie, and Tessa explained that it was what Mariah called the baby. She explained that Mariah was struggling with having to give the baby up after what they went through together. Noah was sure it had been difficult for Tessa too. Tessa said it was nothing compared to what Mariah went through, but Noah reminded Tessa that she was allowed to have feelings. He said that he was sure that she and Mariah could figure it out with time. She mentioned that Mariah wanted them to have a baby. He asked if Tessa wanted to do that. Tessa wasn’t ready. It seemed wrong to her to have a child for this reason. Noah knew Tessa loved his sister, even though it took him awhile to come to terms with it. He just wanted Tessa and Mariah to be happy. Tessa missed having Noah as a friend. He said he was and always would be her friend.

Ashland asked for a word with Billy in private, but Billy said he and Lily had no secrets. Ashland said Gaines was no longer in a position to expose his past and he’d revealed Billy was the one who brought him here to expose the story about Camilla. Billy said that was true. Ashland said that meant Billy was the only one threat to Ashland’s future, however long that might be. Ashland noted that Billy said he wanted Victoria to have that information before the wedding, and if that was true, he should be satisfied. Ashland asked Billy not to release that information, for the sake of his son and his wife.

Billy said he wasn’t going to release Gaines’ video because it would only alienate Victoria. Ashland didn’t know about the video, so Billy let him see it. Billy deleted the video, and Ashland said thanks. Billy said he didn’t do it for Ashalnd, he did it for the mother of his children. Ashland knew what Billy was sacrificing, career-wise, and he said it was quite a gift to Victoria. Billy said some things were more important than his job. Ashland left. Lily smiled at Billy and said he surprised her. She was proud of him.

Ashland went upstairs and told Victoria that he was married to the most beautiful woman on the planet. He’d checked on the kids and they were fine. She said she’d just checked in on the children as well. He said Katie and Johnny were so accepting of Harrison. Ashland was glad Harrison could see him, her, Summer and Kyle working together as a team. Victoria said “as a family.” He said he handled Gaines, and he talked to Billy. He was pleasantly surprised when Billy said he didn’t want to cause a permanent rift with Victoria. He told her about Billy deleting the video.

Victoria wanted to let all the drama go and revel in being husband and wife. They kissed.

Sally saw Jack walking through and called him. He steeled himself and went over. He said he heard about what Sally pulled. He said instead of showing Victoria the design in Genoa City, Sally put her in the untenable position of choosing her wedding dress on her wedding day. Sally admitted it wasn’t the usual way. He said lucky for her, Victoria liked the dress. Sally clarified that luck had nothing to do with it – she worked her tail off to create the perfect dress, and everyone thought Victoria looked spectacular. She asked if it’d kill him to say good job. He wasn’t sure why he cared what she thought. She agreed that it shouldn’t matter, and he was leaving as Adam arrived. Sally said she and Adam should go have some fun. She asked to dance all night long to celebrate, and he said she earned it.

Sally took Adam’s arm and they were about to go to the reception when Victor came out and pulled Adam aside. Victor said that Ashland and Gaines talked, and while Gaines seemed receptive, Victor was convinced he’d remain a problem. His gift to his son in law was going to be to prevent that from happening. Adam reiterated that he was willing to help make this day what Victoria wanted it to be. Victor appreciated that. Adam said that family protected each other. Nick walked up and he had something to say.

Ashland and Victoria walked to the doorway of the place where the reception was being held. Several camera shutters went off and people applauded.
