Lucas: Hey, bro.

Philip: Man, you scared the hell out of me.

Lucas: Relax. Halloween’s over. So what’s going on?

Philip: You invited me to lunch, you tell me.

Lucas: Well, yeah, I invited you to lunch ’cause it’s the only way to make you sit down long enough to tell me what’s going on with the whole brady and chloe thing.

Kate: What “brady and chloe thing”?

[Breathing heavily]

Chloe: Brady? Are you okay?

Brady: Yeah. Um, yes. It’s–it’s nothing.

Chloe: Uh, you didn’t even hear me call your name, so it’s definitely something.

Brady: Let’s forget about it, okay? Let’s forget about it.

Chloe: Uh, I would, except i don’t know what I’m forgetting about ’cause you didn’t tell me anything.

Brady: You’re not gonna let this go, are you?

Chloe: No. So you might as well spill.

Brady: Okay, I’ll tell you. I’ll tell you. I was picturing us having sex on that conference table.

Susan: Oh! There is evil associated with this baby.

Ciara: Was ben right? Did he somehow pass this along to our baby?

Susan: No. No, I–I don’t feel the evil coming from the baby’s father.

Ciara: Okay. Well–

Susan: It’s coming from someone else!

Ciara: Okay, well, who then? Susan, who?

Susan: It–it’s just–it’s so fuzzy.

Ciara: Come on; do it again.

Susan: No, it’s fuzzy, fuzzy. And I just– it’s just gets all jumbled up. So I can’t really see anything right now.

Marlena: What does she have to do with anything?

Ben: That’s why I’m here. Susan’s in salem. She came to warn us that our baby’s in danger.

Marlena: In danger? What’s the matter with her? She won’t get away with this!

Rafe: So can I get you a coffee, water?

Nicole: I’m–I’m good.

Rafe: Okay. So?

Nicole: So about last night–

Rafe: Yeah. Oh, just so you know, ava and tripp are here. They’re in the interrogation room. I brought her in to question her about carmine merlino’s murder.

Nicole: What did she say?

Rafe: Well, she said she had no idea where he came from, that he–he just came in and started ranting and raving and then he attacked her. And were not for her son, she wouldn’t be alive today.

Nicole: Tripp murdered carmine?

Rafe: No. Her other son. Charlie.

Nicole: Oh.

Philip: Where did you come from?

Kate: Well, I live here, so.

Lucas: I invited my brother here for a private lunch. Thank you.

Kate: Honey, that is so sweet. So what about brady and chloe?

Lucas: Well, as you know, you know, the other day philip was down in the dumps because chloe moved out?

Kate: Yeah, I know. And that’s when I said good riddance.

Lucas: Well, thank you for that amazing pep talk. We appreciate that, but it didn’t help. So after we walked it off, we actually did see brady and chloe going into the salem inn together.

Kate: Oh! Well, that was totally predictable, right?

Philip: Mother.

Kate: What? I mean, you said yourself, chloe didn’t leave the house because her injury was better. She left because of brady. So what happened when you confronted her?

Philip: I didn’T.

Chloe: I’m sorry. What did you just say?

Brady: It sounded just as bad as I heard it in my head.

Chloe: What is going on with you?

Brady: Chloe, I swear, there’s a logical explanation.

Chloe: Okay. I’m listening.

Brady: You know that kristen was arrested, right?

Chloe: Yes, I heard. I’m–I’m sorry.

Brady: What you don’t know is that steve johnson caught kristen trying to kidnap rachel.

Chloe: Oh, my god.

Brady: But rachel’s fine. She’s fine. But she’s been asking a lot questions like, “when is mommy coming home? When is she coming back to go on our special trip?” And I don’t–I don’t know what the hell to tell her. I mean, I can’t tell her that her mother is an attempted kidnapper. I was struggling with what to tell and what not to tell her, so I asked marlena for advice. And marlena told me that–that I needed to be honest with myself before I’m honest with my daughter.

Chloe: About what?

Brady: Marlena believes that everything that went down with kristen is my fault.

Chloe: Your fault?

Brady: Yes, because I wasn’t honest with kristen about how I felt about you. And she went crazy with jealousy anyway. The assumption being that kristen knew that I wasn’t being honest with her. And marlena suggested that I was just hiding my feelings from you and–and from myself. I explained to her that I was simply trying to respect your decision to be with philip. And that’s when marlena suggested to me that I just get everything out in the open. That I come to the office and throw you on the conference table and just do what I do and then that’s–

Chloe: Okay, hold on. Let me get this straight. Marlena, dr. Marlena evans, your stepmother, told you to throw me on the conference table and have sex?

Brady: Exactly. Yeah.

Ben: Susan’s not getting away with what? Dr. Evans, I think she just might be trying to help in her own weird way.

Marlena: And how is she helping? By telling you and ciara that your baby is in danger? That’s–that’s absurd. She doesn’t know what she’s talking about.

Ben: Or maybe she does.

Marlena: What does that mean?

Ben: [Sighs] Dr. Evans, when everybody thought that ciara was dead and that I was crazy for thinking she was alive, susan banks confirmed it. If it wasn’t for her, I may have never found ciara. I may not have been married or expecting a baby. I mean, I’m always gonna be grateful to this woman. And I’m always gonna keep an open mind if she has something she wants to tell me.

Susan: Hey. Yeah.

Ciara: Please, susan! Just say something. Tell me who it is.

Susan: Oh, shoot. I lost it again!

Ciara: No!

Susan: Do you know what? I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I really want to help. I really, really do. I mean, that’s why I came all this way.

Ciara: Okay, well, then please, help me. Susan, tell me who the threat to my baby is!

Susan: Well, don’t you think I want to?! It’s–it’s just so much pressure! So much! Ciara, honey, my visions, they come when they’re good and ready. They did. And I just can’t force them. I just–I need to relax!

Susan: Okay, I’m gonna relax. I can’t do it if you’re staring holes straight into me.

Lucas: You didn’t say anything to chloe?

Philip: No. Because I realized that I overreacted. Maybe she and brady were going into the salem inn ’cause he was helping her with her bags.

Kate: Oh, he was helping her with something, all right, but it wasn’t her bags.

Philip: Great. Do your worst, mom. But I am not biting. I have given up on the jealousy, the anger, and the paranoia. No more blowing up over nothing. So I didn’t mention that I saw them, which avoids the third degree. Why create a huge mess when it’s possible that nothing even happened that night?

Lucas: Maybe. But if that’s true, then why didn’t brady just say so?

Brady: I’m sorry the words even came out of my mouth. I–I opened the door, it was on my mind, I saw you. I’m sorry. I’m really sorry.

Chloe: It’s okay. It’s okay. Mm, that table has seen a lot of action.

Brady: Sorry, what?

Chloe: Never mind.

Brady: No, don’t– don’t never mind me. It sounded a lot like you said, “that table’s seen a lot of action.”

Chloe: I’m not saying another word.

Brady: Excuse me, you have to now, obviously. Was there–was there somebody having sex on this conference table besides us? I mean, we didn’t–we didn’T. You know what I mean. Come on!

Chloe: Okay, fine. One of our employees admitted to me that they had sex on that table last night.

Brady: Last night? Last night? That means it was someone who was working late. It was nicole, wasn’t it?

Nicole: So ava said charlie killed that guy?!

Rafe: Mm-hmm. Yeah. You see, ordinarily, I would think that she was lying to get out from under the charge, but, you know.

Nicole: But I saw a dead person too.

Rafe: Yep.

Nicole: Oh, and I’ve been trying to convince myself that I imagined deimos.

Rafe: Yeah, I’m right there with you. But it is weird that both you and ava, you both thought you saw a dead people on the same night.

Nicole: Well, it was halloween. And ava is as scared of charlie as I am of deimos, so maybe she did imagine him.

Rafe: Yeah. Except ava’s not the only one who swears she saw charlie. Tripp does as well.

Nicole: Oh.

Susan: Oh! Oh, my goodness. You–you know who the evil presence is? Are you psychic too, ciara?

Ciara: Oh, well, no, no. But based on what you just said, I think I have a hunch that it might be someone who’s very close to ben.

Marlena: Of course, you can be grateful to her, but it doesn’t mean you have to pay any attention to her–her half-baked visions.

Ben: What if she’s right? Dr. Evans, what if she’s right and everything that I’ve been afraid of this whole time comes true and I really am passing down my–

Marlena: Oh, ben. We’ve talked about this before. You are kind and caring. And you are–you are no danger to this baby.

Ben: And I really want to believe that. I do, but it wasn’t just what susan said. It’s what she did. She reached out and she put her hand on ciara’s stomach. And whatever susan was feeling, it caused her to faint. And it freaked me out. And that’s why I came to you.

Marlena: Well, I’m glad you came to me, uh, because the last thing that we need– the last thing that you need is some self-righteous fool trying to predict your future. And trust me, I will take care of susan.

Philip: You talked to brady?

Lucas: Yeah. Yeah, I did. I went to give him hell. You know, I told him that we saw him carrying chloe’s bag into the salem inn. And I asked him point blank if they slept together.

Kate: Okay. Did he admit anything?

Lucas: No. But he didn’t deny it either. He said that if philip wanted to know the truth, that philip should ask him himself.

Kate: Oh, my god. Well, you know, obviously, it’s true because he wouldn’t be dancing around like that if he didn’t want to be caught in a lie.

Philip: Or maybe he thought it was none of lucas’s business, which it isn’T. And it’s none of yours either, mother. What?!

Kate: What do you mean what? You know, I’m just afraid that–don’t tell me you’re gonna hide your head in the sand again about the whole fact that chloe’s cheating on you?

Philip: What, so you’re just gonna continue to incite me?

Kate: No, no, what I’m trying to do is get you to open your eyes to the fact that you’re once again involved with a lying, shallow phony who is going to hurt you again just like she did in the past.

Philip: And speaking of the past, your jealousy has led you to some very dark places. I don’t want that to happen to me.

Kate: I have no idea what you’re referring to.

Philip: Where to start? How about the poison brownies you gave chloe when she cheated on lucas with your ex-boyfriend daniel?

Lucas: Not to put too fine a point on it.

Chloe: I will not confirm nor deny–

Brady: You don’t have to. I’m totally right, aren’t I? Aren’t I? See, yep, yep. I can’t believe it. I told her–no, I told her that ej was gonna be bad news, and she didn’t even listen to me, so–

Brady: No. I mean, what, they’ve been on two dates? I mean, I know they were married before, but–

Brady: Chloe, she’s vulnerable right now. You know, the divorce and everything. He’s totally taking advantage of her; it’s ridiculous.

Brady: You know he did. He obviously did. And I’ll tell you what, I don’t know where the hell he gets off, that’s for sure.

Brady: Oh, someone’s gonna listen; it’s ej, and he’s gonna get a piece of my freaking–what are you– what are you doing?!

Chloe: It wasn’t ej. It was rafe.

Nicole: Well, do you think tripp lied about seeing charlie to protect his mom?

Rafe: Well, he is protective of ava, but I don’t think he’d come up with a story like this, not dragging allie into it.

Nicole: Allie also saw him?

Rafe: Oh, yeah. Apparently, charlie was at your apartment.

Nicole: Oh, my god. I haven’t even talked to allie since all this happened. Is she okay? And henry?

Rafe: She’s okay. Henry’s okay. Luckily, henry was with roman. But it was scary, you know? When tripp showed up at the apartment, charlie was attacking allie. He had intentions of killing both of them, and well, luckily, tripp was able to overpower him. He thought he killed him, and then–

Nicole: Oh, let me guess. He disappeared just like deimos.

Rafe: Yeah.

Nicole: This is so creepy.

Rafe: Yeah.

Nicole: So now what?

Rafe: Well– how are you even gonna verify everyone’s stories?

Rafe: That’s a good question. So I sent a squad over to check out the graves, first of all.

Nicole: You know, last night, you were pretty sure that ava killed carmine and it was over between you. But what if this is all somehow true and ava didn’t kill him? Oh, my god, rafe. We made a terrible mistake.

Ciara: Well, this is clyde weston, ben’s father. He did some pretty terrible things, and he’s in prison now. But could he be the evil presence you’re feeling? You think he’s the one trying to harm my baby?

Susan: Hmm. I mean, I do get bad vibes off of him. And I mean, he looks mean, mean, mean, but is he out to harm your baby? No, no. I don’t think so. I don’T. Uh-uh. I’m sorry, ciara.

Ciara: Oh, it’s all right. Well, so now what?

Susan: You know what? Okay. Would you mind if I tried one more time?

Ciara: No. Of course, please.

Marlena: Can’t you see what you’re doing?

Susan: I’m just–I’m trying to helping ben and ciara.

Kate: I’m just trying to protect you, okay?

Philip: I don’t need your protection, mom. Chloe’s the woman for me. The only reason she moved out was because my jealousy was so out of control, so no more jealousy.

Kate: Okay, you can jump in anytime with some words of wisdom, okay?

Lucas: Nah, I’m okay. I’m staying out of it.

Philip: I’m gonna be the man chloe wants me to be. I’m gonna romance her. I’m gonna show her how I feel. You know, most importantly, I’m going to trust her. From now on. And hopefully, we can put this all behind us. And if I’m lucky, she’ll move back in with me.

Brady: Rafe? Rafael and nicole?

Chloe: Yeah.

Brady: Okay. I thought he was living with ava vitali.

Chloe: Well, according to nicole, rafe says it’s over with ava.

Brady: Uh-huh, and he just happened to show up on halloween night when nicole was working here and–

Chloe: I don’t–I don’t know. It’s none of our business.

Brady: It’s kind of our business because this is kind of our office. That’s kind of our table.

Chloe: Oh, brady, please just drop it, okay? Forget I said anything. I promised nicole I wouldn’T. But you just–you have a way of getting things out of me.

Brady: Well, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to make you betray a confidence, chloe.

Chloe: Okay. You didn’t “make” me. I take full responsibility for my big mouth, but now I feel like a bad friend. So please, you–you cannot breathe a word of this to anyone, okay? Please?

Rafe: Last night wasn’t a mistake. What happened between us wasn’t because ava killed carmine. It was just an excuse.

Nicole: I don’t understand.

Rafe: I’ve been trying to do the right thing. I have, you know, to keep distance between us, ’cause that’s what we agreed to do, right? But it’s been hell. It’s been hell, because I can’t–I can’t get you out of my head. All I do is think about you. You are in my heart.

Rafe: I don’t–I don’t know if you saw deimos or not. And I don’t know if ava, tripp, or allie, I don’t know if they saw charlie. But what I do know is what happened is what I’ve wanted to happen. Nothing else matters.

Nicole: Last night, you thought the worst of ava. You thought she killed carmine and was reverting back to her old ways, but now that we know charlie is real or at least as real as a zombie can be…

Nicole: What if ava is telling the truth and that she wasn’t hiding him? Look, then all your assumptions of her lying to you, they could be wrong.

Brady: You’re kidding me, right?

Chloe: No. Honestly, seriously, he has not mentioned it since.

Brady: Wow.

Chloe: Yeah. I’m hoping that this means he’s finally gonna take the high road and not let his jealousy get the best of him, and he finally trusts me and believes when I say that you and I are just friends.

Susan: I would never, ever, ever do anything to hurt ben and ciara.

Ciara: She was only trying to help.

Marlena: And–and now look at you, you’re all upset. You should be having nothing buy joy in your lives right now. And then susan had to come and upset you with this ridiculous story.

Ciara: She said no, that it wasn’t him. That evil presence she’s feeling is not related to you, it’s not clyde, it’s someone else.

Susan: You know, I didn’t mean to upset you. I was just trying to help.

Marlena: Well, you didn’t help. You scared those kids. And the ideas of you put in their heads–that’s detrimental to them and to this baby.

Susan: I present no danger to that baby.

Marlena: I’ll be the judge of that. In the meantime, I want you to stay away from them.

Susan: Stay away? But, dr. Evans, this is a storm like no one else has ever seen. And that baby is the center of it. I can–I can feel all of it.

Marlena: Stop it. That’s enough. I don’t want you going anywhere near them. You are to stay away from them. Do you understand?

Susan: With all due respect, what the heck do you know?

[Scoffs] Marlena: How dare you speak to me like that?

Susan: I’ll tell you how I dare. I feel things that no one else feels. I see things like no one else sees. And I sense evil coming for that baby. And if I–i can’t live with myself if I didn’t speak up about it.

Kate: You know, you could’ve been a little more of a help with your brother.

Lucas: You mean I could have taken your side?

Kate: No, you could just have agreed with me that chloe is a lying, cheating little slut. I mean, actually, brady didn’t deny that something happened between them, right?

Lucas: You know what? Maybe I shouldn’t have said anything at all. Maybe philip was right. Maybe chloe deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Kate: You’re joking, right?

Lucas: And unlike you, I don’t choose to see the worst in chloe.

Kate: Oh, that’s so noble. But it’s also foolish and laughable, because just like I have damn good reason to distrust chloe, so do you.

Brady: Look, especially for your sake, I hope that philip has gotten some control over his trust issues, because that would make your life a lot easier, but…

Nicole: Rafe, I–i betrayed my husband. And it was a terrible mistake. I am not gonna betray my best friend. I don’t want to be that kind of person. And I’m pretty sure you don’t either. And I can already see how this is gonna play out, the guilt, the lies, the hurt, the self-loathing. And who knows? We could end up hating each other.

Nicole: I know what we have to do. We have to forget this ever happened.

Marlena: How dare you presume to tell me what I can and can’t handle?

Susan: I just meant that–

Marlena: I am just fine. I’ve been doing just fine managing great without your help. So why don’t you go back to memphis? I’m sure that roger misses you.

Susan: No. No. I will not go back home to memphis, not until I figure out what this dark thing is that’s surrounding that little baby. You know what? I don’t care if you approve or not.

Marlena: You’re not going anywhere.

Susan: Lord almighty. Oh… it’s you.

Ben: Oh! Susan banks. What the hell are you doing here?

Susan: I had to come– I had to come back. I had to. I had a premonition. Yeah. About your baby.

Ciara: How did you know that I was pregnant?

Susan: [Gasps]

Chloe: Morning. Oh, you look tired. Were you up late?

[Dramatic music]

What did you do last night?

Nicole: I had sex on that conference table with rafe.

[Dramatic music]

Ava: Rafe. Thank god you’re here.

Rafe: We need to talk.

Demon marlena: So good to see that the havoc I wreaked on halloween is getting some publicity.

[Eerie laughter] Hang on to your hats, boys and girls. You ain’t seen nothing yet.

[Eerie music]

Susan: [Huffs] You know, your lack of faith is like a knife to my heart. How did I know that you were pregnant? Honey, I told you, I had a premonition!

Ciara: Okay, and you came all the way from memphis to tell us that.

Susan: Yeah! See, once I saw what the future holds, I drove straight here like a bat out of hell.

Demon marlena: Since I spent the night raising souls from their graves, maybe I’ll spend today putting a new one in the ground.

[Eerie music]

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Tripp: I’ve already left ten messages. Just tell commissioner hernandez to call me back, okay? Hey.

Allie: Hey.

Tripp: Is he asleep?

Allie: Yeah. Grandpa roman and my dad kept him up way past his bedtime. I guess they were watching some animated halloween movie. Lots of little ghouls and goblins.

Tripp: Oh, I bet they had fun.

Allie: Yeah. I’m just glad that he wasn’t here for our little horror show. And I still don’t know if that was real or not.

Tripp: Yeah, me neither. And now I feel really bad about telling my mom that charlie’s little visit from hell was all in her head, that she was just hallucinating.

Allie: Yeah, well, if she was hallucinating, then we were too. I mean, we saw your dead brother also.

Tripp: Yeah, but there has to be a rational explanation. I mean, maybe some weird halloween mind trick was going around.

Allie: I don’t know. But I felt charlie’s hate. I felt his evil. He wanted to kill me. He wanted to kill both of us. And I really thought he was going to.

[Dramatic music]

Rafe: You told both shawn and eli that your deceased son was responsible for the dead man that I found in my kitchen!

Ava: It’s the truth.

Rafe: Oh, god.

Ava: Rafe, I swear. Charlie crawled out of his–his grave, and he stabbed carmine merlino. I watched him do it.

Rafe: Come on, ava. Come on!

Ava: Come on? You have to believe me! Why are you being so cold?

Chloe: Okay, that’s a good one. Wait, are you serious? You had sex with rafe on this table? Eww. So, are you gonna tell me how that happened?

[Dramatic music]

[Eerie music]

Demon marlena: Just as I was about to kill john black last night, their pesky grandson interrupted. Well, prepare to meet your maker, john black. You have cheated death for the last time.

Brady: Marlena?

Susan: I got here as fast as I could. Oh, I did stop off to get a couple pounds of turkey jerky. I mean, they say it is the world’s best. So, am I right? Am I right? Is ben weston’s seed flowering in your womb?

Ben: Yes, susan. Ciara is pregnant.

Ciara: Yeah.

Ben: It was confirmed this morning.

Susan: Oh, I was right! I was right! Oh my god! You know what, when I-when I see the future, I’m always right. My visions are always right. I mean, except when I play the slots in those- those-those riverboat cruises that I take with roger. I mean, I swear that those little one-eyed bandits–I think they’re rigged. I do.

Ciara: I believe it. So, wait, so you came all the way here to tell us something that we already know.

Susan: No. No. I came to warn you.

Ben: Warn us about what?

Susan: Your baby, it’s in grave danger. Serena: It’s my 3:10

Ben: Danger? Susan, what are you talking about?

Ciara: Okay, ben, you can’t listen to her. I mean, no offense, susan, but from what I’ve heard about your visions, you are wrong more often than you are right.

Ben: Yeah, but how’d she know we were pregnant?

Ciara: I don’t know. Maybe shawn told someone, and then they told her, and–

Susan: [Growling] You know what? I’m used to people doubting my gifts– at their own peril.

Ben: She was right before. When you were missing, she helped us find you.

Susan: And you know what? You know what? If-if-if that mean, mean, mean kristen dimera didn’t convince me to switch places with her, you would have been found a heck of a lot sooner.

Ben: You were in statesville while she was running around free.

Susan: Yeah! Running around free as me! Making a lot of trouble in town, and breaking poor brady’s heart.

Marlena: Brady. I didn’t hear you come in.

Brady: I just dropped rachel off at school. Is everything okay?

Marlena: Of course. Why would you ask?

Brady: Well, to be honest with you, when I walked in, I swear I heard man’s voice say something about father cheating death? Yeah. Yeah.

Marlena: Oh, right. I was talking to roman on the speakerphone.

Brady: Oh, is dad in some kind of trouble or danger?

Marlena: Well, not that I know of. Not that I ever would know of. But he’s on some secret mission with black patch. I just, I’m hoping that nothing bad happens to him.

Brady: Nothing bad’s gonna happen to him. He’s indestructible. You know that.

Demon marlena: Yeah, we’ll see about that.

Brady: What?

Marlena: I said I can’t wait to see him when he’s back.

Brady: Yeah. I’m surprised he left. I mean, it’s your anniversary. Right?

Marlena: Yeah, of course, of course. You know your dad. He’s always racing off to help somebody. Anyway, I was-I was racing off on an errand that is fairly urgent, so I’ll be going.

Brady: If you have one minute, just one minute, I would love to get your advice on something.

Marlena: Sure. Glad to be of help.

Allie: I always feel so safe with you.

Tripp: I can stay as long as you want.

Allie: I appreciate that, but I know you want to go see your mom. I love you, tripp.

Tripp: So, that part wasn’t a hallucination.

Allie: Saying that to you is the only part about last night that I know was real. I’m sorry it took me so long to say it.

Tripp: Don’t be. I’m just glad you did. And allie, I love you, too.

[Light piano music]

Ava: I have been here all night, by myself, freaking out, and you finally show up, and you are as cold as ice. What is going on?

Rafe: I’m just trying to get to the bottom of what happened.

Ava: I told you what happened.

Rafe: Well, why don’t you tell me what carmine merlino, a well-known mobster who had put a bullet in the mayor, was doing in my house to begin with?

Ava: I was making dinner, and all of a sudden he showed up, and he starts ranting and he starts raving, and then all of a sudden he attacked me.

Rafe: Really?

Ava: Yes! Rafe, he threatened to strangle me. He started to do that ,and all of a sudden charlie shows up, and he put a knife in carmine’s chest!

Rafe: Okay. Okay. What did charlie do then?

Ava: You know, I didn’t stick around. Because as much as I wanted to catch up with my psycho zombie kid after he stabbed the guy who tried to kill me, you know what, I just got the hell out of there.

Rafe: Right. Well, there’s just one major problem with your story.

Ava: What’s that?

Rafe: We only found one set of prints on the knife that was used to kill carmine– yours.

Chloe: Wait, I’m confused. I thought you were dating ej. Did he freak out over that thing with steve’s phone? What happened?

Nicole: No. Chloe, can we please not talk about it right now, okay? I’m exhausted.

Chloe: Yeah, I bet you are. I bet you are, my friend. And I care about you. And if you did something you regret–

Nicole: I don’t regret it.

Chloe: Oh, well, then I’m even more confused. I know that you have feelings for rafe, but I thought you two agreed to keep your distance…

Nicole: We did.

Chloe: Out of respect…

Nicole: We did.

Chloe: For ava.

Nicole: Yes. We did.

Chloe: Then, what happened?

Nicole: There were, um, extenuating circumstances.

Chloe: What does that mean?

Nicole: You know how committed I was about not acting on my attraction for rafe. ‘Cause I didn’t want anything to get in between ava and him.

Chloe: Okay, then what happened?

Nicole: I almost died.

Chloe: What?

Nicole: I saw– right here, in this room, I saw–

Chloe: Well, what-what is it? What’d you see?

Nicole: Deimos kiriakis.

Chloe: Deimos is dead.

Nicole: I know that. But last night, he came back to kill me.

Ciara: Thank you, susan, for helping ben find me. Really.

Susan: Oh, I would really like to help you again, now.

Ben: One moment, susan. Maybe we should hear her out. I mean, she really did come all this way.

Ciara: I don’t know, ben. It seems very personal. Not to mention weird. Look at her.

Ben: Yeah, she’s definitely odd. But like I said, how did she know we were pregnant?

Ciara: Like I said, maybe shawn told someone and the news got to her somehow. Look, I don’t-I don’t care, ben. I do not like her coming into our home out of nowhere, telling me that scary things are gonna happen to my baby.

Ben: Well, the baby wouldn’t even exist right now if she didn’t help us. Look, if you want me to get rid of her, I’ll get rid of her right now, but I think it might be easy if we just listen. We definitely don’t have to believe anything she says.

Ciara: Fine. Fine, fine, fine. Fine. Susan.

Susan: Mm-hmm?

Ciara: We would love to hear your vision.

Susan: Oh! That is such a good decision! Very smart and intelligent.

Ben: Yep. Okay, so why don’t you go ahead and tell us, susan, what kind of danger you think my child is in.

Marlena: What do you want advice about?

Brady: Rachel. Rachel. Ever since kristen’s little surprise visit–that’s what I’m referring to her attempt to kidnap our daughter–she’s been asking all kinds of questions.

Marlena: Like what?

Brady: You know, like, why did mommy have to leave again? You know, when is mommy coming back and taking me on that surprise trip that she promised? And I don’t know what to tell her.

Marlena: Well, why don’t you try the truth?

Brady: Well, she’s-she’s really young. I don’t think I want her to know all the things her mother has done.

Marlena: Well, I wasn’t talking about her mother. I was talking about you.

Brady: What I did?

Marlena: Brady, let’s just be honest. Are you or are you not harboring impure thoughts about chloe lane?

Chloe: How much did you have to drink last night?

Nicole: I was stone cold sober. I came here to get some work done, and I looked up, and an undead deimos was standing right there, and he was furious. And he came at me, so I grabbed a pair of scissors, and I stabbed him in the heart, and he died. Again.

Chloe: Oh, my god.

Nicole: I was freaking out, obviously, so I called rafe to help me, but by the time he came here, the scissors were on the floor–no blood, no body, no deimos. I mean, it was halloween, and it was really creepy, you know, being here by myself. I don’t know, maybe-maybe I imagined the whole thing.

Chloe: Still sounds terrifying.

Nicole: Yeah. I was a wreck when rafe got here, and he was so kind and comforting, and one thing led to another, and–

Chloe: And then conference table sex?

Nicole: Yeah.

Chloe: So, now what?

Rafe: So, how do you explain the forensics report?

Ava: I don’t know, rafe. Maybe zombies don’t have fingerprints.

Rafe: You do have a connection to carmine, though. You used to be his boss.

Ava: Yes, used to be. I cut my ties with my past.

Rafe: Oh. Okay. But not according to gabi. In fact, she says that you and philip kiriakis were using carmine to blackmail her, that if she refused to sign over her company, they were gonna pin a murder on jake that he didn’t commit.

Ava: Yeah. Right. Of course. Of course. Why am I not surprised that your sister is using this to try and turn you against me?

Rafe: Well…

Ava: She’s the reason I spent the night here, isn’t she? She is the reason you never showed up.

Rafe: Ava.

Ava: I know. I know that shawn called you and he told you I was here and that I needed you. So, where were you? What was so important that you couldn’t come here and help your girlfriend, who is being held on suspicion of murder?

[Dramatic music]

Rafe: Ava, there’s something I need to tell you.

Brady: I would hardly call my feelings for chloe impure.

Marlena: Oh. Well, we could argue semantics all day long, but the truth is you do have feelings for her. And when kristen asked you about it, you said you didn’T. So you lied. You lied to kristen, and you lied to yourself.

Brady: I’m trying to be respectful here. I really am. I mean, look, chloe has said that she’s with philip. She’s with philip. So, I-I know that she wants to work on it with him.

Marlena: You are her first choice.

Brady: I blew my chance, and I’m going to accept it. I have to accept it.

Marlena: No, you don’T.

Brady: No, I don’t? Okay, then what–marlena, what do you-what do you-what do you suggest that I do about this?

Marlena: I suggest you go back to the office, you find chloe, and without a word, you lay her down on the conference table and show how big your feelings are for her.

[Dramatic music]

Ava: Where were you last night?

Tripp: Mom. Are you okay?

Ava: Yeah, honey, I’m fine, I’m fine. No thanks to some people.

Tripp: Didn’t they give you my messages?

Rafe: Yeah, I’ve been kind of busy.

Tripp: They were refusing to let me come back here. I could have really used your help. I’m so sorry I left you last night.

Ava: No. Are you kidding? I told you–I insisted that you go check on allie. Are she and henry okay?

Tripp: Yeah. I just came from there. They’re fine.

Ava: Thank god. Thank god charlie didn’t hurt them.

Rafe: Your mother says she saw your dead brother last night.

Tripp: She did. Allie and I saw him too.

[Dramatic music]

Allie: Dupree. Why aren’t you at the bakery?

Chanel: My bestie/business partner called in sick, so–

Allie: What’s that?

Chanel: Chicken soup. Guaranteed to cure what ails you.

Allie: Well, that’s very sweet, but I have a confession. I’m not sick, I just didn’t get much sleep last night.

Chanel: Oh. So, you and tripp–

Allie: We were together, but it’s not what you think. Actually, something really scary happened last night.

Chanel: Well, halloween’s all about being scared.

Allie: No, it wasn’t, like, normal halloween scary.

Chanel: Well, why don’t we sit down and you can tell me all about it?

Ciara: All right, susan. Tell me, what grave danger is my child in?

Susan: I’m not really clear on the specifics.

Ciara: Mm-hmm. But you said that you know what the future holds, so.

Susan: I did! I did see it! I did! It’s just, sometimes it gets a little fuzzy, like.

Ciara: Mm-hmm. Okay, here’s the thing: I just found out that I am pregnant, so the last thing that I need is any negative thoughts or opinion or idea fluttering around in my brain. You know, like, I’m freaked out enough as it is.

Susan: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no, I would never want to make a mother-to-be feel ill at ease. No! It’s bad enough with the morning sickness. But you have to listen to me! It’s very important that you hear what I have to say.

Ciara: Okay, but it seems to me that you don’t even know what you have to say, susan.

Susan: You know what, it’s like I told ben when you went missing: I just-I can’t control the vision! I just can’t! And-and-and-and one minute, everything is super duper sharp, and then the next, I just lose the signal. And I can always get it back. I can. I can always get it back if I tune in just right.

Ciara: Mm-hmm.

Ben: Yeah, and it helps if you hold on to something, right? Like the fortune from the cookie, right?

Susan: Oh, yes, ben! That could work! That–yes! Yes!

Ben: Okay.

Susan: You know what, I just need to get a psychic vibration from the baby. Do you have a rattle or something?

Ciara: You know what? We haven’t really gotten a rattle yet. I found out a couple of hours ago, so.

Ben: What if you, like, put your hand on the belly?

Susan: Oh, yeah.

Ciara: My belly?

Ben: I meant ciara’s belly.

Susan: I know, silly. I just couldn’t resist a good six-pack. Wow.

Ciara: Okay, that’s enough.

Susan: Oh, okay, right, I’m sorry. Okay. Yeah.

[Mysterious music]

Oh, I feel something. Oh, my goodness, you got a little life force in there.

Ben: Okay, yeah, what else, susan? Susan?

Susan: Oh! Oh, the evil! Oh, lord, the evil! Nicorette knows, quitting smoking is freaking hard.

Chanel: So, what was this scary incident that kept you up all night?

Allie: I don’t really want to get into it. But I can tell you something else that happened last night. I finally told tripp that I loved him.

Chanel: Horton, that’s amazing. He must be so happy. I know he was feeling a little insecure about it.

Allie: Right. Because you guys talked about it.

Chanel: Guilty as charged. Sorry I lied.

Allie: Why did you?

Chanel: I don’t know. When you came off the elevator and you saw the two of us talking, it was a little bit awkward, and I didn’t want to speak out of turn. But all that matters is that tripp knows you want to be with him and not me, despite johnny and that ouija board nonsense. What was that all about, anyway?

Allie: He saw you feeding me the pumpkin cookie, and he thought it was intimate.

Chanel: Are you serious? Halloween really makes people see things that aren’t there.

Allie: So, did my brother ever apologize for being a huge jerk?

Chanel: He did come over last night, and we did make up.

Allie: Hmm, so, in other words, you let him off easy.

Chanel: Oh no, I made him work for it. Literally.

Allie: What do you mean?

Chanel: Who do you think covered your shift this morning? Starting at 5:00 A.M.

Allie: No way.

Chanel: G decorated six trays of dia de los muertos cookies, and then I had him help me with this surprise order that came in for a cake. Some folks celebrating a 56-year anniversary.

Allie: Wow! 56 years. That’s a long time.

Chanel: Some people really do beat the odds. They’re destined to be together, and they stay together. They’re so-called super couples.

Ciara: Oh, my god, ben, what are we gonna do with her now?

Ben: I don’t know. Maybe I should go get dr. Evans. She’ll know how to handle it. Will you be okay here?

Ciara: Do I have a choice?

Brady: Can’t believe you just said that.

Marlena: You needed to hear it.

Brady: You think I should go to the office and throw chloe down on the conference table? Marlena, come on. No! No way! No.

Marlena: Brady.

Brady: Yeah.

Marlena: You can’t keep going on like this. You’ve got to be honest with yourself and with the woman you love. And I think this is the most direct way. I mean, it’s bold and daring, and very romantic. So, you go on and you find chloe and show her who’s boss.

Brady: Marlena, I am her boss. I am her boss. Even if I wasn’t her boss, and even if she wasn’t involved with somebody else, I mean, come on, that kind of behavior in the workplace–

Marlena: What? Worked for john and me. John had his way with me on the conference table at titan.

Brady: Right.

Marlena: And the rest is true love history.

Brady: Also recall it traumatized sami, and also ruined your marriage to roman.

Marlena: Well, roman got over it. Eventually. And philip will too. The thing is, when there’s this kind of a powerful attraction, it has to be expressed, because the heart wants what the heart wants. And so does the body. So, you go on to chloe, and you tell her how you feel.

Brady: Okay.

[Eerie music]

Chloe: What’s going to happen when ava finds out about this?

Nicole: Look, rafe led me to believe that it was over between him and ava.

Chloe: Since when?

Nicole: Since she was taken into police custody on suspicion of murder.

Chloe: What?

Nicole: It’s a really long story, but apparently ava’s been lying about leaving her life of the mafia princess behind, and it turns out that she’s been hiding the guy that shot abe, and then she ended up killing him in rafe’s kitchen with a knife.

Chloe: Oh. Okay, let me get this straight. So, last night, you and ava both possibly stabbed someone to death. But in ava’s case, there was a body.

Nicole: I know, it sounds crazy!

Chloe: Yeah, but let’s go with it. So, if rafe and ava really are over, what does it mean for you and rafe? Was last night a one-time thing, or is it the start of something?

Nicole: I don’t know. Rafe and I didn’t really talk much last night.

Chloe: Well, maybe you should talk now.

Ava: You saw charlie. See, I told you.

Rafe: Yeah. Listen, tripp, I get why you’d want to cover for your mother, but lying to the police isn’t a good idea.

Tripp: I’m not lying,. Okay, look, when she first told me she saw my brother, I didn’t believe her either, okay? I thought she was having a drug flashback. But when I went over to allie’s place, charlie was there holding her.

Ava: God. Oh my god.

Rafe: But you said she and henry are okay, though.

Tripp: Yes.

Rafe: All right. Well, go on. What happened next?

Tripp: Charlie let go of allie and he came after me. We fought. I just kept hitting him over and over again. And finally, allie pulled me off of him. And we took our eyes off him for like two seconds, and he just disappeared.

Rafe: Disappeared?

Tripp: I can’t explain it, okay? He just vanished. All right? You don’t believe me, do you? I don’t blame you. I mean, I’m not sure I believe it myself.

[Dramatic music]

Nicole: This doesn’t make any sense. Deimos was here, dead on the floor, with a pair of scissors in his chest. I mean, how could he just- how could he just disappear?

Rafe: Well, then I’ll go check on charlie’s grave.

Ava: Let me come with you.

Rafe: Yeah, sorry about that, but until this is all cleared up, you gotta stay here. As a dj, I know all about customization.

[Light instrumental music]

[Dramatic music]

Demon marlena: I can’t wait to see what happens with chloe and brady. Even if he doesn’t have the nerve to ravish her right now, I’ve planted the seed in his brain, so it should cause some trouble. Now, on to his father, john black.

Ben: Oh, hey. Dr. Evans, hi. I really need to talk to you.

Marlena: Yeah. I’m sorry, I was just leaving.

Ben: It’s really important. We just found out ciara’s pregnant.

[Eerie music]

Ciara: Well, good morning, sunshine.

Susan: Goodness, gracious. I am so sorry about that.

Ciara: That’s all right. Are you okay?

Susan: You know, I’m a little lightheaded, but it is passing.

Ciara: Good. Good. Well, I still think you should rest until marlena gets here.

Susan: Oh, you know, I did not mean to upset you! I didn’t!

Ciara: Oh, I know. I know. It’s just, you know, it’s not particularly helpful of you to put your hands on my belly and start screaming about something evil. Ben is already really worried about our baby, because of his family history and the things that he’s done in the past.

Susan: Yeah, I know. I know. He was the necktie killer. But dr. Marlena evans told me that there’s no threat to anyone anymore.

Ciara: Yes, that is right, he’s not. But he’s still worried about passing on his “evil gene” to the baby.

Susan: Well, everyone knows that I’m not one to stick my nose into anybody else’s business, but– I didn’t mean to upset you at all, so I’m just gonna-I’m gonna go to the little girls’ room, and then I’m gonna be moseying on my way.

Ciara: Well, wait, susan. If there’s even the slightest chance that my baby is in danger, I need to know. I’ve lost count of how many asthma attacks I’ve had.

Chloe: Brady? Brady. Are you okay?

[Dramatic music]

Chanel: So, where is this man you have declared your love for?

Allie: At the police station.

Chanel: Is he in trouble?

Allie: No, but his mom is, and he’s trying to get her out of it.

Tripp: Mom, I am so sorry I doubted you.

Ava: It’s okay, hon. I am starting to have some doubts of my own.

Rafe: Yeah. Head over to the ceremony and check out charlie dale’s grave. Let me know if you find anything unusual. And while you’re at it, check out deimos kiriakis’ as well. Okay.

[Dramatic music]

Ciara: I know that the love and I ben have for each other will get us through whatever the future holds. I know that. But I’m gonna need you to try again. So, just please.

Susan: Okay.

[Eerie music]

Ciara: What?

Susan: The evil! The evil associated with this baby is very strong! Oh my, there’s so much!

Ciara: Okay. What does that mean? Does that mean that ben was right, that he passed on his evil gene to my baby?

Susan: No! No! The evil’s not coming from the baby’s father! The evil is coming from someone else.

[Eerie music]

Marlena: Ciara’s pregnant. Are you sure?

Ben: Yeah. Yeah. She took an at-home test, and then kayla confirmed it this morning.

Marlena: You and ciara are having a baby. That’s the best news ever.

[Laughing]

Belle: I just had the most awful nightmare.

Shawn: About what?

Belle: My mom was possessed by the devil–again.

Ben: Baby, you just took that test last night. I assume it’s still potive?

Ciara: Yes, we are. Do you think that it happened after the first time we tried?

Ben: Maybe. Although we did do it like bunch of times after.

Ciara: Yeah, we did, but we did both agree that the first time felt different. Was special. After we had wondered out loud, if I was pregnant, a big gust of wind came in through the window and–

Ben: Scared the hell outta me because I thought it was a bad omen.

Belle: She just kept– she kept saying over and over in this really creepy voice, “expect the unexpected.”

Shawn: What do you think it means?

Belle: I don’t know. You know, it was, like–like, it was kind of an inside joke, and she just kept cackling like a maniac. Ugh, I can still hear it.

Shawn: Well, it’s not real. All right?

Belle: No, I know. I know. It’s probably just a combination of jet lag and seeing her in that weird halloween costume yesterday dressed as the devil with those creepy contact lenses that made her eyes look like they were glowing. Anyway, I’m sorry I woke you.

Shawn: No, no, no, no. I’m sorry. I’m sorry you had to see your mom like that. I mean, it must be difficult, given her history, so–

Belle: Yeah.

Gwen: You said some really vicious things to me at the house that day. You said that I would be a horrible mother. So I wanted to hurt you the way that you hurt me. And I said that you pushed me down the stairs, but that wasn’t true. It was just horrible, tragic accident.

Abigail: It was horrible and it was tragic. But I wouldn’t exactly call it an accident.

Jack: What is she talking about?

Belle: Oh, come on. After everything they’ve been through, makes sense that they wouldn’t wanna take anything for granted. Especially their time together. Truth is, none of us know what tomorrow may bring.

Shawn: Yeah. Speaking about imaginable events, I am gonna go to the hospital. I’m gonna visit abe. Do you wanna come?

Jack: Abigail, what are you saying?

Abigail: I will tell you. The day that gwen showed up at the house and I said those horrible, horrible things to her, she was coming from the hospital where she was treated for severe abdominal pain.

Abigail: I am truly sorry, but it is. Dr. Snyder examined her, found that her baby did not have a heartbeat because she had miscarried. So, of course, when she arrived back at the hospital later that day, dr. Snyder knew that her fall down the stairs had nothing to do with why she lost the baby.

Chad: And it quickly became clear to him that she didn’t want us to know about that.

Abigail: Gwen wanted everyone to think that I was responsible for killing her unborn child. Dr. Snyder knew how desperate she was to keep the real story from coming out. And that is what he was using to blackmail her.

Chad: And even after she admitted the fall was an accident, she still let us believe that abigail was partly to blame. That if they hadn’t fought on the stairs, she wouldn’t have lost the baby.

Ciara: You know what, kayla? I think I just got a little scared.

Abigail: What does that have to do with anything?

Jack: I’m just wondering if this–this story might be a way to assuage that guilt.

Maggie: Well, cook really outdid herself with these scones.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Maggie: You should try one. Well, you know what I miss most about being away? Was our lovely conversations over breakfast. You know, the news about politics, and catching up. It was all so invigorating.

Victor: Excuse me?

Maggie: You didn’t hear a word I said?

Victor: I’m sorry. This article. Ava vitali, she’s– she’s in police custody on suspicion of killing the guy that shot abe. That’s wonderful, isn’t it?

Maggie: Well, thank god that horrible man is no longer a threat.

Victor: I’m talking about the part of her going down for murder.

Maggie: Oh, of course. How silly am I?

Victor: The woman blackmailed philip. Forced him to launder money through my company. I’m allowed to revel at her misfortune.

Maggie: Well, whatever sparks your joy, dear.

Victor: Another miscreant behind bars. You know the cell in pd lock up must be running out of room.

Justin: Actually a few spots just opened up.

Maggie: Oh, justin!

[Laughter] You are free!

Justin: Yes, I am.

Maggie: Oh, my goodness gracious.

Justin: All thanks to uncle vic and steve johnson.

Steve: Oh, hey. Right about now, gwen should be getting released.

Jack: Oh, steve, I don’t know how to thank you. You really came through for my daughter.

Steve: Well, when victor told me that the original deal didn’t include bonnie and gwen, I just didn’t think that was right.

Jack: So you fought for both of their released too?

Steve: And I was happy to do it.

Jack: Even though you’re not a fan of either one.

Steve: Well, I’ve come around on bonnie. And gwen is my niece. What kind of an uncle would I be if I just let her go to prison?

Xander: Oh, there you are. Are you okay?

Gwen: Better now.

Xander: What took so long? Bonnie and justin got already released. I was starting to worry there was something, like, snag with your case.

Melinda: I was just explaining to ms. Rizczech that the only reason why she’s free is because her uncle, steve, played hard ball.

Gwen: Apparently, your uncle did not intend to save bonnie or me.

Melinda: If it were up to me, all four of you would be serving time in statesville.

Xander: Oh, a softie like you wanting us all locked up? I’m surprised.

Melinda: More than you know. But your freedom was a small price to pay for what I got in return–the bitch who murdered my daughter.

Kristen: Oh, thank you for coming. So where’s ej?

Chad: [Sighs] He won’t be showing up.

Kristen: What do you mean? Why not? I need him to represent me.

Chad: I’ll let him explain it himself.

Kristen: [Exhales sharply]

Abigail: Aunt kayla, do you have a minute?

Kayla: Oh, sure. I was just going on my break, so yeah, I definitely have a minute. What’s up?

Abigail: Did you happen to get my text the other day?

Kayla: I’m sorry, I did. Then, everything with abe and everything else going on. I’m sorry. Things got so crazy.

Abigail: Totally understand. No, no. But now that everything is okay with abe, thank god, I’m hoping that you could help me out.

Kayla: Okay.

Abigail: [Sighs] I think that gwen is lying to my dad, and I need you to help me prove it.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Justin: Since D.A. Trask dropped all the charges, I probably won’t be disbarred.

Maggie: Oh, that is fantastic news! Did you happen to pull some strings?

Victor: Well, I might have negotiated a deal that was mutually beneficial with trask.

Maggie: Oh, and what did she get out of the deal?

Victor: Something, or someone that she’s always wanted. Kristen dimera.

Maggie: But she’s gone into hiding.

Victor: Well, that’s why i hired steve johnson to find her, and apparently, he’s come through. Looks like he took her directly to trask.

Justin: It’s a fact. Kristen is already in custody.

Victor: Could this day get any better?

Victor: I really do appreciate your help, uncle vick. Things were looking pretty dire.

Victor: Well, you’re the best of us, justin. I couldn’t allow you to go to prison. Although what you did was very, very stupid.

Justin: I love you too. Sincerely, thank you. Bonnie and I owe you.

Victor: Bonnie? The hell she’s got to do with it?

[Squeals] Time to get this party started!

[Giggles]

Xander: Oh, I would love to see the look on victor’s face when he finds out bonnie’s out of jail.

Gwen: He hates her that much?

Xander: Can’t stand the sight of her. No, he’s convinced that she’s not nearly good enough for precious justin.

Gwen: I can’t imagine what he’d think of me then.

Xander: I don’t give a damn. Victor’s opinion hasn’t mattered to me for a very long time.

Melinda: Ugh, this insight into the kiriakis family dynamic is oh, so fascinating, but you’ll have to excuse me. I have a psychopath to put away. Although, something tells me it won’t be long before I see one or both of you back here again.

Xander: Excuse me, um, aren’t you forgetting something? You and I have unfinished business.

Kayla: So what do you think gwen’s lying about?

Abigail: Well, I mean, i don’t know if you’ve heard, but gwen admitted to my dad that dr. Snyder blackmailed her into being his drug courier.

Kayla: Yes, jack did tell steve and me that, yeah.

Abigail: And did he happen to mention the leverage that snyder had over gwen?

Kayla: Just that apparently he knew that she was a sex worker in her past.

Abigail: Right, which, I mean, she only did it to help make ends meet, which is so sad and something my dad would absolutely understand. And she knew that, and he did understand.

Kayla: Right.

Abigail: So I just–I don’t see why she would allow herself to be blackmailed into delivery drugs, something that she abhorred, all in an effort to keep my dad from finding out she used to be a sex worker. I mean, we both know she’s done things infinitely worse since coming to town, and she’s felt no shame about them.

Kayla: So the point is, you think that she’s lying about her past?

Abigail: Yes, I do. I think she’s hiding something else, something much worse.

Victor: Why aren’t you in jail?

Bonnie: [Giggles] What are you talking about? Hey, honey.

Justin: Hi.

Bonnie: You’re the one who got me sprung. That’s why I bought you this fancy champagne as a thank you. Mm-hmm.

Victor: Well, you’re not welcome. Must be some sort of a mix-up.

Justin: What do you mean?

Victor: I negotiated a deal for you and xander to be released. It didn’t include the release of some dime store dolly parton.

Bonnie: Well, I guess patchy renegotiated the terms, because now both gwen and i are free as birds. Tweet tweet.

Xander: Gwen and I aren’t walking out of here until you return my briefcase.

Melinda: Oh, the one filled with a million dollars?

Xander: Yeah, that’d be the one. And now that bonnie’s case is closed, you don’t need it for evidence anymore.

Gwen: And xander and I have really big plans for that money. Don’t we, darling? Starting with a tropical paradise resort and mai tais.

Xander: Not to mention sex on the beach.

Gwen: Yeah, and he’s not talking about the drink.

Melinda: Ew. Okay. Enough already. I’ll get you your money, mr. Kiriakis, but the paperwork will take a while. So why don’t you come back in an hour or two?

Xander: I’ll be here, and I expect every last dollar to be accounted for. Shall we?

Yeah.

Steve: You know, initially kayla and I had a hard time accepting gwen into the family after what she did to you and jennifer, and the hell she put abigail through.

Jack: I understand, I do. But you have to know, gwen regrets everything she’s done, the pain she’s caused. She’s worked so hard to make amends and turn her life around.

Steve: Yeah, well the only reason she saw the inside of a cell was because she was trying to take down a corrupt judge.

Jack: Exactly, exactly. Gwen’s really trying, and I just hope it– hope it counts for something.

Steve: Well, I had to give her a second chance. I’ve had plenty of those myself.

Jack: Me too. And for what it’s worth, I truly believe that gwen has changed. She’s done for good with her secrets and lies.

Kayla: So if gwen wasn’t a sex worker in her past, what do you think snyder was holding over her head?

Abigail: I don’t know. And to be honest, I hope that I’m wrong. I mean, gwen and my dad have gotten close recently, as I’m sure you know, and if there is something, I hate the idea of hurting my dad, and gwen, for that matter. I’ve done enough to that woman as it is. I’m the reason she lost the baby–the whole fight at the top of the stairs– and that’s just really hard to forgive myself for.

Kayla: Abigail, it was an accident.

Abigail: Yeah, but it wouldn’t have happened if i wasn’t so furious. And it didn’t end there, right? You know, I mean, she went, she was treated by snyder because of the fall, and we all know where that led. And so, I–part of me feels like I should just let the whole thing go, but I just have this nagging feeling that there is something else going on. And that’s where you come in.

Kayla: I–I don’t see how I could help.

Abigail: I’d like to go in and take a look at snyder’s office. I’m–I’m hoping that I could go in there and I could find some clue as to what it was he was really holding over gwen.

Kristen: “Dear kristen, I know you were counting on me to represent you against your latest charges, but the board has advised me not to take on your case, as it will reflect badly on the company. I will do what I can to help you behind the scenes, but unfortunately, I cannot do so publicly.” What the hell? I nursed this bastard back from the grave, and this is how he repays me?

Chad: I lobbied hard. Ej refuses to go against shin.

Kristen: [Scoffs] To hell with shin and appearances. My future is on the line, and without ej’s help, I could spend the rest of my life behind bars. I order my groceries online now.

Steve: So you and gwen have gotten pretty close, haven’t you?

Jack: We have. We have, and now that she’s finally let down her guard, I’ve had a glimpse of the kind of woman she could’ve been if she hadn’t been walking around carrying that huge chip on her shoulder. Selfless, caring, especially when it comes to xander.

Steve: Things pretty serious between them?

Jack: Well, she did try to entrap that judge to get xander out of jail.

Steve: Well, nothing says love like pretending to seduce another man.

Jack: In a weird way, in gwen’s mind, that’s exactly what that said. And now that she has zander are out of jail, they have a real chance to see where it can go.

Gwen: [Scoffs] Well, I just checked upstairs, there’s not a soul to welcome us.

Xander: You didn’t really think anyone in this house would actually be glad to see us, did you, besides your father?

Gwen: I suppose you’re right. Hey, what are you doing there, mister? Is that my laptop?

Xander: Oh, I hope you don’t mind; I just couldn’t wait to get started on our vacation plans.

Gwen: You really are excited about this, aren’t you?

Xander: Are you kidding? We’ve been apart for weeks in tiny, dank cells. The least we deserve is to unwind on a nice, sandy beach somewhere.

Gwen: Mm, yes. With our toes in the water.

Xander: Seagulls squawking overhead.

Gwen: [Chuckles] The smell of salty air.

Xander: And you, in the tiniest bikini we can find.

Gwen: And you, trunks or a speedo?

Xander: Speedo. You know I can pull it off.

Gwen: Not unless I pull it off first.

Kayla: The police had sealed snyder’s office, but as of this morning, the case is officially closed since all the charges against xander have been dropped. Apparently he was the last unresolved part of the case. The rest of the drug ring has already been rounded up.

Abigail: Mm-hmm. Well, are you sure this is okay? I don’t want you to get into any trouble.

Kayla: Well, I don’t see why you can’T. I already retrieved all the patient information, so now, all that’s left are his personal effects.

Abigail: Great. Well, I can’t thank you enough for this.

Kayla: Well, just lock the door when you leave. And good luck. I hope you find what you’re looking for.

Abigail: So do I.

Kayla: Okay.

Kristen: [Sighs]

Chad: Don’t panic, okay? Ej hired another attorney. He’s supposed to be top notch. He’ll meet you at the courthouse later.

Kristen: Oh, great. Am I supposed to be grateful? When did ej become such a coward that he couldn’t come down here and tell me to my face that he was abandoning me?

Chad: You know he’s worried about the bad publicity.

Kristen: Didn’t seem to bother you. Or are you not scared of incurring shin’s wrath?

Chad: Well, you know me. I like to live dangerous.

Kristen: Thank you. Thank you for coming down here.

Chad: I’m sorry you’re in this mess, kristen.

Kristen: Yeah, and I’m only in it because victor sicced steve johnson on me. Ooh, I really ought to just stab the old man in the heart, again.

[Laughter]

Chad: No, no, no.

Kristen: [Sighs]

Steve: So johnson went behind my back and negotiated a side deal. I should’ve known I couldn’t trust him.

Justin: And here I thought you did something nice for a change.

Steve: I did do something nice, just not for her.

Maggie: Victor!

Bonnie: [Scoffs] I don’t know why you’re making such a big fuss. You got what you wanted. Justin and xander are free. Gwen and I are just an added bonus. Kind of like when you order onion rings and you get a couple of fries thrown in.

Steve: No, absolutely not. No, I’m going to call trask. This has got to be fixed right away.

Justin: No, stop! The deal is done, and in case you need to be reminded, bonnie is innocent. She deserves her freedom.

Victor: She killed a woman and tucked her into your bed.

Bonnie: It was self-defense.

Victor: Forgive me if I find that hard to believe.

Maggie: Victor, let it go. Justin and bonnie have been through enough. I’m sure they’re ready to put this nightmare behind them.

Justin: And that’s exactly what I intend to do. In fact, I would like to, um, pick up right where we left off. What do you think about getting married today? Better skin from your body wash?

Bonnie: [Giggles] You want to get married today?

Justin: Why not? We could have the ceremony right here, just like we originally planned.

Victor: This venue is booked.

Maggie: For what?

Victor: I’m having friends over for lunch.

Justin: You don’t have any friends.

Victor: How the hell would you know that?

Justin: Name one.

Victor: Ricardo.

Maggie: He’s your barber.

Bonnie: [Snorts]

Justin: That settles it. We’re having the ceremony right here. Now we just have to hope that the justice of the peace, the matron of honor, the best man are all available. I’ll call them right now.

Bonnie: Wait, what do I wear? My wedding dress is all wrinkled, and still in the bag from being arrested.

Justin: Not a word. How about that dress that you were gonna wear for the reception?

Bonnie: It’s perfect. Why didn’t I think of that? Oh, god, I love you so much.

Justin: I love you too.

Bonnie: Aw! You have made me the happiest woman in the world.

Justin: Let’s go.

Bonnie: Okay.

Justin: Oh.

Bonnie: Oh.

[Laughter]

Victor: I’m gonna kill steve johnson.

Kayla: [Gasps]

Steve: [Growls lowly]

Kayla: [Squeals] Hello.

Steve: People are watching us.

Kayla: Perfect timing.

Steve: Well, I thought you would be on your break about now, so I wanted to come down and see if I could steal you away for a stroll in the park.

Kayla: Well, that sounds lovely. I just need to hear back from the lab, and then we can go.

Steve: Okay.

Kayla: So how was your breakfast with jack? I bet he was very happy that you got gwen released.

Steve: He was. I tell you, though, I’m just hoping our niece can manage to stay out of trouble from now on.

Kayla: Yeah, about that… you know, I’m sorry to say this, but I–I think that she might be lying to jack again.

Steve: About what?

[Cell phone rings] Hold that thought. Hey, justin. What’s up?

Melinda: I heard the bad news. Your brother, ej, is throwing you to the wolves. Hmm, tough break.

Kristen: Uh-huh, yeah. Well, he did arrange for another lawyer. The best, so, I’m not worried.

Melinda: Well, you should be. You’ll be serving out the five years of your original sentence, which could’ve been two, but you blew that by breaking out twice. And now, you’re facing additional charges of… how many counts of kidnapping and aggravated assault? I can’t keep track anymore. So trust me, you are going away for a very, very long time. And I want you to know, I’m the one that’s making it happen.

Chad: Hey. Got your message. Find anything yet?

Abigail: Uh, not so far. Snyder was definitely a pack rat, which is why I needed your help.

Chad: Anything you need. Where do you want me to start looking?

Abigail: Um, why don’t you do these cabinets here?

Chad: You got it.

Abigail: How did things go with your sister?

Chad: Well, she’s upset that ej’s not taking the case. I can’t blame her, you know. I mean, ej goes on and on about loyalty, but whenever it comes down to it, he’s only ever out for himself.

Abigail: Yeah, well, we knew that already, right?

Chad: What exactly are we looking for?

Abigail: I don’t know. I’m sort of hoping something’s just gonna jump out at us, but maybe I’m grasping at straws and there’s nothing to find.

Chad: We sure as hell aren’t going to give up. Gwen has a secret in here. We’re going to find it.

Both: [Moaning]

Xander: Oh, god, I’ve missed those lips. Every bit of you.

Gwen: I think we should take this to my room, yeah?

Xander: Why don’t we stay here? Why waste precious moments climbing stairs?

Gwen: [Laughs] We know how julie feels about this couch. She will absolutely kill us.

Xander: Or number one, she’s not here, and two, she doesn’t have to know. And three, I am so crazy for you right now. I can’t wait another second.

Gwen: Oh, god. Oh, yeah.

[Both laugh] Hurry. Hurry.

Jack: Gwen, are you– oh, my god.

Gwen: [Screams]

Xander: [Grunts]

Gwen: Oh. It’s my 4:05 the-show-must-go-on

Jack: Excuse me. I didn’t mean to interrupt.

Xander: No worries, mate. Did you have to shove me so hard?

Gwen: I’m sorry, it’s reflex. Are you all right?

Xander: Just a broken rib or two, no big deal.

Jack: I really should be going, so I’ll–

Gwen: No. No, no, no, no. Jack, jack, please don’t go. Don’t go. I’m so happy to see you.

Jack: Not as happy as I am to see you. Steve filled me in on everything, welcome home.

Both: [Laughs]

Gwen: I owe steve so much.

Jack: Listen, you pay him back by having a really good life.

Gwen: Believe me. I plan to do that, and it’ll be such a relief to know I don’t have to ever think about that awful snyder ever again.

[Tense music]

Chad: Snyder was really into legal thrillers.

Abigail: Maybe he was researching how to get away with running a drug ring.

Chad: I mean, he certainly wasn’t studying the classics– “law and disorder”, “miscarriage of justice”?

Abigail: What’s that?

Chad: Looks like a medical record.

Abigail: For gwen rizczech?

Chad: It’s about the miscarriage.

Abigail: Whoa, it is, but why would he be keeping this hidden away in a book?

Kristen: I’m very aware of the deal you made with victor and steve. I’m a bit surprised an overachiever like you cut loose four potential feathers in your sad little cap.

Melinda: It was so worth it. The woman who killed my daughter wasting away in a prison cell. I will finally have justice for my little girl.

Kristen: I’m sorry about haley, but it truly was an accident–

Melinda: Shut the hell up with your excuses. You took my daughter away from me.

Kristen: Yeah, and you are doing exactly the same to me. I may never get to see rachel again.

Melinda: That seems fair to me. I lost my daughter because of you. I’m just returning the favor.

Kayla: Hello?

Steve: Hey.

Maggie: Hey.

Steve: Where are the bride and groom?

Maggie: Oh, they’re still getting dressed.

Victor: This is all your fault.

Steve: Say what?

Victor: We had a deal. And that deal did not include you going behind my back and making any side deals to release any other trash that you happen to have around town.

Kayla: Well, what was steve to do? Leave them behind? I mean, bonnie was innocent and gwen was just helping zander.

Steve: There was no way in hell I was going to leave my brother’s daughter and justin’s fiancée in prison, so I don’t give a damn what you think.

Victor: I should’ve known you’d go rogue. Let me make one thing clear. I am not paying you one red cent, and I’m not going to hire you either.

Steve: Is that a promise? Oh.

Kayla: Oh.

Steve: There’s the happy couple. Except they don’t look so happy. What’s going on, man?

Justin: The justice of the peace is not available today. So we’ll have to postpone the ceremony.

Victor: Great.

Maggie: No, you won’t! I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I suppose I could officiate. On the outside, I looked fine.

Bonnie: You’re offering to marry us? You don’t even like me.

Maggie: Well, you’re not exactly my favorite person, but you are justin’s, and that counts for something.

Justin: Thank you, maggie. Thank you.

Victor: This is ludicrous. You’re not even ordained.

Maggie: Well, actually, I got ordained in prison last year. I had a lot of time on my hands.

Victor: You couldn’t take up macrame?

Kayla: I think it’s a great idea.

Steve: So do I.

Maggie: [Chuckles]

Justin: Shall we do this?

Bonnie: There’s nothing I want more.

[Laughter]

Maggie: All right, well, let me write a script, and I’ll be right back.

Kayla: Well, I thought that you might need this.

Maggie: Oh, thank you.

Kayla: Well, what are matrons of honor for?

Bonnie: Could I ask you one more favor?

Kayla: Of course.

Bonnie: Mimi wanted to video chat so she could watch. Could you hold my phone?

Kayla: Yes, I’d be happy to.

Justin: And, steve, do you mind doing the same thing for sonny and his brothers?

Steve: No problem, buddy.

Justin: Okay.

Bonnie: Steve, I know I’m about to have the happiest day of my life, and it’s all because of you, because you got me out of prison. So I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you did for me.

[Laughs] For me and my about-to-be husband.

Justin: Steve, we are so very grateful. Thank you.

Steve: You know, kayla and I are grateful too because you look happy. I can see those dimples again.

[Laughter]

Justin: Okay, are we all set?

Kayla: Yep.

Justin: Are you staying?

Victor: Why wouldn’t I? I was here first.

Justin: Suit yourself. But you better be on your best behavior. I don’t want you casting a pall over our celebration.

Victor: I wouldn’t dream of it.

Jack: I think we should celebrate your freedom with a toast.

Gwen: Sounds lovely.

Jack: To my best mate. To my darling daughter. I know these past few months have not been easy, but I never cease to be amazed and impressed by how the two of you have looked out for each other. Not quite yet. I’d like to think of this as a fresh start. What’s that irish blessing? May green be the grass you walk on. May blue be the skies above you. May pure be the joys that surround you. May true be the hearts that love you.

Xander: Now?

Jack: Now.

Xander: Cheers.

Gwen: Cheers.

Both: [Indistinct]

[Phone beeps]

Xander: Oh, a text from trask. Paperwork’s finished. I can collect my briefcase. I’ll be back as soon as I can. We are one step closer to our little bit of paradise.

Gwen: I can’t wait.

Xander: Me neither. Thanks so much for the welcome, jack.

Jack: I take it you two are official now?

Gwen: [Sighs] I–I suppose so, yeah. How do you feel about that?

Jack: Does he make you happy?

Gwen: [Sighs] Believe it or not, yeah. Yes.

Jack: Then you have my blessing.

Gwen: That means more to me than you know. Thanks, dad.

Jack: Dad?

Gwen: Sorry. That sort of just slipped out.

Jack: No, no. Don’t be sorry. I’ve been waiting months to hear you call me that.

[Laughter]

Gwen: Lovely.

Abigail: “Patient experienced sharp abdominal pain, drove herself to the hospital 20 minutes after symptoms began.”

Chad: Well, that’s not what happened. Gwen took an ambulance here.

Abigail: That just doesn’t make any sense. This doesn’t mention anything about her falling down the stairs. Look at the time on these.

Chad: What about them?

Abigail: This says that this exam took place hours before gwen and I had the argument.

Chad: So she was here before the accident?

Abigail: Oh, my god. Why give your family just ordinary eggs

Maggie: Dearly beloved, we are gathered today to join justin alexander kiriakis with bonnie maureen lockhart in marriage. This commitment is not to be entered into lightly, as it is a sacred bond and one that comes with great responsibility. Victor: Worth a shot.

Eli: Well, all hallow’s eve has brought out the goons, the goblins, and the crazies, starting with gabi, who apparently busted jake out of holding.

Eli: Yeah. Listen, that doesn’t even compare to the murder suspect that we’ve got in the interrogation room. Someone you know, actually.

Eli: Honestly, I think she just snapped.

Shawn: Ava stabbed carmine merlino? Isn’t he the same guy who shot abe?

Eli: Yeah.

Shawn: How is that possible?

Eli: Look, all that talk about ava breaking free from her past, it seems like those mob ties run pretty damn deep. Apparently she was hiding carmine at rafe’s house.

Shawn: Oh, my gosh. She admitted that?

Eli: She’s not admitting much of anything. Hell, she’s not even making sense. That’s why I’m headed out on a few leads to see if I can find out exactly what happened. You mind taking a run at her? See if you can get her to tell you exactly what she knows?

Shawn: Yeah, man, I mean, I could give it a try.

Eli: Well, if you’re lucky, maybe you’ll be able to get her to talk to you about something other than people rising from the dead.

Ava: You know, this is a waste of time, right? Because I didn’t kill carmine. My son, charlie, did.

Shawn: Ava, charlie’s dead.

Ava: No, he’s not. I saw him.

Shawn: No, you could not have seen him. Jan spears killed charlie and framed belle for the crime. Don’t you remember that?

Ava: Of course I remember it. Everyone in this town was a suspect.

Shawn: Right. So it doesn’t matter who killed him. The fact is, charlie’s dead.

Jake: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I’m much more alive than I was a few minutes ago, I guess.

Gabi: I thought I lost you.

Jake: Yeah, well, you might lose me if you don’t let me just breathe for a second.

Gabi: Okay, I’m sorry.

Jake: No, I just– oh, my god, I’m so happy to see you. You want to tell me what the hell is going on?

Gabi: I–I don’t know. I saw what I saw, and I still don’t know what happened. Do you know how you got here?

Jake: The last thing I remember, I– a cop…was taking me to lock up in jail, and I– someone grabbed me from behind and… that’s the last thing I remember until I just woke up with your lips on mine. That’s a hell of a way to wake up, by the way.

Gabi: I’m so sorry. This is all my fault.

Jake: Your fault?

Gabi: Yeah. Nick fallon, he came after you because of me. He busted you out of jail and he buried you in his grave.

Jake: Nick fallon?

[Eerie music]

Is that the guy you killed?

Nicole: This–this doesn’t make any sense. Deimos was here, dead on the floor with that pair of scissors in his chest. I mean, how could he just– how could he just disappear?

[Sighs] You think I’m crazy, don’t you?

Rafe: Okay, why don’t you just tell me what happened?

Nicole: [Stammers] I– I was right here working, and I heard a noise, and I looked up, and deimos was at the door.

Rafe: Okay. Then what happened?

Nicole: And, oh, god. He was so angry, and he told me that I was gonna pay, and he came at me and I panicked, and i grabbed the pair of scissors, and I stabbed him. And–and he was right here! He was right here when I called you.

Rafe: Okay. Okay, so–so deimos came back from the dead, and you killed him, and now he’s gone. No blood on the scissors. Oh, but they say zombies don’t bleed, right?

Nicole: Rafe, the look in his eyes– I have never been so terrified in my life.

Rafe: Okay, okay. So let’s say deimos did come back from the dead, right? Well, he’s got a hell of a lot of enemies, so why is he gonna come after you?

Nicole: ‘Cause he said he wanted revenge.

Rafe: Revenge? For what? Once upon a time there was a reindeer named tiptoe

Rafe: Nicole, why would deimos want revenge on you?

Nicole: [Sighs] Because I– because I rejected him, okay? You know–you know how obsessed he was with me.

Rafe: Right, okay. So that’s why deimos showed up here tonight from the dead, ready to kill you because you had rejected him and he never got over it, even after he died.

Nicole: Of course, you don’t believe me. I wouldn’t believe me. Oh, my–

Rafe: Oh, okay, here. What I believe–what I believe is that, um, you were here alone in the dark, and it’s halloween and everyone’s thinking of ghouls and goblins, and it’s– it’s natural, right? Your mind, it just, you know, maybe it played tricks on you.

Nicole: No, no, no. My mind was not playing tricks on me, rafe. I–

Rafe: Okay.

Nicole: Okay, you know what? Maybe it–it all was in my imagination. Okay, so I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have bothered you.

Rafe: No, it’s okay.

Nicole: No, it’s not. It’s not okay, okay? Can we just please forget what happened here? I was acting like a crazy woman. And just– just go home to ava.

Rafe: Yeah, well, actually I’m not going home to ava.

Nicole: Why not?

Rafe: Because ava is being questioned about a murder.

Ava: Don’t speak to me like I am an idiot. Of course, we all know that jan spears killed charlie, but it doesn’t change the fact that charlie showed up in my kitchen tonight.

Shawn: Right, and he’s the one who killed carmine.

Ava: Yes. Carmine was trying to strangle me, and then suddenly charlie showed up, and he killed him. And then he starts ranting and raving about how I never loved him, and I would never love him enough, and then he came after me with a knife, and that is why I ran.

Shawn: Okay, so– so carmine wanted you dead.

Ava: Yes.

Shawn: But now–but now he– now he’s dead. I mean–

Shawn: Yes, because charlie killed him.

Shawn: Yes, I know. I know that’s your story.

Ava: It’s the truth.

Shawn: I thought you changed your ways, ava.

Ava: I have.

Shawn: Moved in with rafe, starting a new life.

Ava: What are you trying to get at?

Shawn: I don’t know. You’ve got a good thing going. And you’re happy, you’re settled, and then your past comes back, and it bites you. Things get out of hand. I don’t know. Maybe you’re latching onto this crazy story because you want to avoid taking responsibility for killing carmine merlino.

Philip: Detective grant. You out trick-or-treating? I’m afraid we’re down to the dregs, but there’s still a few good pieces left if you dig.

Eli: I’m here on police business.

Philip: What can I do for you?

Eli: Carmine merlino was found dead earlier this evening.

Philip: I heard about that on the news. Wasn’t he the man believed to have shot mayor carver? What would you want with me?

Eli: Look, you can–you can cut the whole innocent act, okay? I know that you’re up to your eyeballs in this.

Philip: How so?

Eli: Because carmine merlino was in town because of you. Because he had got some dirt on jake dimera that you were gonna use to get gabi to hand over her company to you. Allegedly. And instead he ended up shooting my father-in-law.

Philip: That’s quite a tale. But if you’re looking for me to confirm it–

Eli: Why don’t you just start with answering some of my questions. Like when’s the last time that you saw the guy?

Philip: Will you please calm down? Jake’s the one who brought carmine to salem. You and I didn’t even know about it.

Ava: You think that gabi’s gonna let jake take the rap? She hates my guts. Damn! I don’t know why I agreed to help you. I don’t know what I was thinking.

Philip: I thought you had nerves of steel.

Ava: Rafe cannot find out that I am mixed up in what happened to abe carver.

Philip: So what do you wanna do?

Ava: We gotta keep carmine quiet, which means you need to do what he wants.

Philip: I can’t hide him here. He came to the freaking front door. You think henderson’s not gonna tell my father about my house guest, the mobster? You know how to disappear people. You get rid of carmine.

Ava: All right, I will.

Philip: Call me when it’s handled.

Ava: Oi, hey, hey. Where you think you’re going?

Philip: You started this. You handle it. I’ve got places to go, people to see. I admit I… learned some unsavory details about an employee and promptly fired him for it, which isn’t a crime the last time I checked. But if this carmine was an associate of jake’s, maybe the person you want to talk to is jake.

Jake: Nick fallon. You killed him…twice, right? So…how the hell is he alive enough to try and kill me?

Gabi: All I know is he was dead and buried here up until tonight. Now he’s walking around salem as creepy as he was when he was alive.

Jake: [Chuckles] You saying he’s a–a zombie? That’s crazy, right?

Nick: Isn’t it just?

[Laughs] You should’ve left well enough alone because now… we’re gonna have to do this all over again. Hi sabrina!

Nicole: Ava’s being questioned about a murder? Why?

Rafe: Well, after I left you at the hospital, I went home, and I found carmine merlino dead on my kitchen floor.

Nicole: Isn’t that the man suspected of shooting abe?

Rafe: Yep, that’s the one, and from what I can gather, ava’s been hiding him.

Nicole: In your house?

Rafe: Yep, apparently so. She thought it was okay to put me and my family at risk to hide the guy who nearly killed abe.

Nicole: You think she might have killed that guy?

Rafe: Uh, you know, honestly, I don’t know, but like I said before, there is definitely a connection between ava and carmine.

Nicole: And you’re wondering if she might be reverting to her old ways.

Rafe: Yeah, yeah. And according to gabi, ava hooked philip up with merlino to get dirt on jake so as to blackmail gabi and take over gabichic.

Nicole: I can’t believe she would do that.

Rafe: No, you’re right. Neither can I. You know, and for weeks, she’s been going out of her way to be nice to gabi, and I– you know, this whole time, she’s been plotting to take over her company with philip.

Nicole: I am so sorry.

Rafe: Yeah. Yeah, so am I. Yeah, it looks like I’ve been played for the fool. So…apparently ava hasn’t been honest with me for a very, very long time.

Ava: For the hundredth time, I did not murder carmine. Charlie did. And this isn’t just about me. This is about keeping everyone in this town safe.

Shawn: What do you mean?

Ava: Charlie, he is on the loose, and he wants henry back. He could be going after allie as we speak.

Tripp: You know, you’re such a loser, you know that? You were a loser when you were alive, and now you’re just a loser as a zombie.

Charlie: Shut the hell up.

Tripp: You’re not even scary. You’re just pathetic.

Allie: Tripp, don’t make it worse.

Charlie: Better listen to your little girlfriend ’cause by the time I’m done with you–

Tripp: Bring it, then. Come on, at least you’ll be picking on somebody your own size instead of allie.

Charlie: Instead of who, allie? Oh, poor, innocent allie, she wanted it that night. She’s never gonna admit it, but she did.

Tripp: Shut the hell up–

Charlie: Or what, you’re gonna kill me? I’m already dead, and that’s your fault.

Tripp: I’m not the one who put a bullet in you.

Charlie: You were there the night that jan shot me. You knocked on the door. You called my name. I heard you, and what’d you do? You just walked away.

Tripp: I didn’t know you were inside.

Charlie: You didn’t know I wasn’T. You could’ve busted down the door. You could’ve called an ambulance. If you did, I’d still be alive. You know what? I’m glad you didn’t try to rescue me ’cause then jan would’ve had the pleasure of killing you, and now, that pleasure is mine.

Allie: No.

Charlie: What better way to pay you back for the hell that you made my life than to take you back down to hell with me?

Allie: No, no, no!

Gabi: How the hell? You came back from the dead, but you are not going anywhere near jake.

Nick: I told you, sweet cheeks, it’s called payback.

Nick: Gabi, just calm down.

Gabi: [Yelps]

Nick: Gabi, gabi, are you– are you okay?

Gabi: I want to go home.

Nick: You’ve told me so many times how much you love it, the way I make you feel.

Gabi: Nick, you’re scaring me.

Gabi: I already killed nick twice. I guess he was right. Third time really is the charm. All right, should we put him back where he belongs?

Jake: Yeah, I think that’s a good idea.

[Grunts] Whoo, so… since we’ve established that you’ve already put this maniac out of his misery three times, how do you explain how the hell he got out of here tonight? Climbed out of this grave?

Gabi: Jake, I have no clue, and honestly I don’t even think I want to find out.

Eli: Well, I’d like to talk to jake, but he busted out of jail tonight and is still at large.

Philip: On your watch, detective? Higher-ups couldn’t be too pleased about that. Any leads?

Eli: He may have had help.

Philip: Let me guess. You mean gabi.

Eli: I mean… he may have had help.

Philip: So gabi busts her mobster boyfriend out of the slammer. I knew those two were bad news. Glad I fired him. But I’m a little confused, detective. Shouldn’t you be out hunting salem’s own bonnie and clyde instead of harassing innocent citizens?

Philip: The innocent part is still up for debate. I’ve got to get back to the station.

Philip: So we’re done?

Eli: For tonight, but I may have more questions, so–

Philip: “Don’t leave town?” Don’t worry. This isn’t my first rodeo. If you need me, you know where I’ll be. Feel free to take some candy for the road.

Nicole: I knew ava and gabi didn’t get along, but for ava to help philip steal gabi’s company– that company means everything to her.

Rafe: Yeah, well, you know, don’t go feeling too sorry for gabi because it turns out she’s not exactly on the straight-and-narrow, either.

Nicole: What do you mean?

Rafe: Well, jake broke out of jail tonight, and it looks like gabi may have helped him.

Nicole: That’s–

Rafe: Yeah, nuts, right? Yeah, exactly. I thought I was gonna spend tonight confiscating toilet paper and shaving cream.

I’ve avoided you, you know. I’ve pretended that a bench and a doughnut and a bad coffee at the hospital was enough. It’s not. It’s just not because every time I see you, I just want…

Shawn: Do you remember when charlie drugged you, and you were seeing people who weren’t actually there? And you thought– you thought that charlie– charlie killed tripp.

Ava: Yeah. Tripp said the same thing. He thought it might be an aftereffect of the drug.

Ava: Okay, so it is possible that maybe–

Ava: No, no, because charlie wasn’t a hallucination, okay? If he was, carmine wouldn’t actually be dead.

Allie: Tripp, enough. Hey–

Eli: Shawn, did you get anything out of ava?

Eli: No, we’ve got units combing through the city. No luck. He’s still at large– what the hell?

Tripp: You know when I said I wanted to do one of those ghost tours on halloween? Yeah, I’m over it.

Allie: Charlie couldn’t have just disappeared. I mean, where is he?

Tripp: I have no idea.

Allie: But that–I mean, that just happened, right? That was real, wasn’t it?

Tripp: I–I don’t know what the hell is going on, but it’s not just us, okay? My mom saw him, too.

Allie: That’s why she called you?

Tripp: Yeah, apparently charlie killed somebody right in front of her and came after her with a knife. She freaked out and barely escaped.

Allie: Oh, my god.

Tripp: When she first told me about it, I didn’t believe her. I just blew it off. I thought it was just some aftereffect of the drugs charlie gave her, but when I saw him with you, I–

Allie: That was no aftereffect. How did you even know to show up?

Tripp: Mom was afraid that charlie would go after you, and even if it turned out to be all in her head, I couldn’t take that chance ’cause the just the thought of that– of that maniac being anywhere near you or henry. Thank god the little guy’s with roman.

Allie: What if you didn’t show up? Oh, what if charlie had taken henry?

Eli: Rafe, what’s up?

Rafe: Yeah, I’ve got a possible homicide on my hands and I need you and the forensics team on it right away.

Eli: Where’s the body?

Rafe: My kitchen floor.

Tripp: Okay, tell me– tell me what’s going on.

Ava: You– you won’t believe me.

Tripp: Just–just tell me.

Ava: I– I saw your brother.

Tripp: Charlie’s dead, mom. You know this.

Ava: No. I saw him. He came for me.

Tripp: Okay, you need to calm down.

Ava: No, listen to me. I saw him. I am not crazy, okay? He came–he came to rafe’s house. He found me. He killed someone right in front of me.

Charlie: You’re not getting rid of me that easily. Not this time.

[Soft orchestration]

Ava: Tripp, tripp, you have to believe me. I saw charlie stab him. He killed him.

Tripp: Charlie’s dead, mom. You know this.

Ava: No, he isn’T. He is alive. You know, maybe he isn’t alive, okay? But he is back and he found me at rafe’s house.

Tripp: Okay, okay, you’re really upset and you thought you saw him, but that’s not possible.

Ava: Okay, listen to me. Tripp, I saw him. He killed a man.

Tripp: What–what man? What are you talking about?

Ava: Okay.

[Stammering] There was–he was– I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know who the man was. But–but he stabbed him. He killed him. Tripp, I watched him do it.

Tripp: Okay, okay, all right. Mom, this isn’t making any sense. The man, does rafe know him?

Ava: No, no. Rafe–rafe, he wasn’t there. He–he didn’t see anything. Oh, my god, tripp. Tripp, I was so scared because– because after charlie stabbed– after he stabbed him, he said that he was– he was undead. And then he talked about the night that he died. And–and he said how– how when I told him that I loved him, that I didn’t mean it and that I was lying. And that I never– that I never ever loved him.

Tripp: Okay, mom, I think we should go to the hospital.

Ava: No! Okay, I am not crazy. He said that I never loved him and I never would because he would never be you, okay? And then– and then he looked at me. He looked at me in some bizarre way, and then– and then he grabbed– he grabbed another knife. And said he was going to kill me. And he was so calm about it that I knew he meant it. So I pushed him and I ran. And that is when I called you.

Tripp: Okay, mom, let’s– let’s go.

Ava: Okay, no. No, tripp, we need to run away, okay? We have to run away because don’t you see? He is not only gonna kill me. He is gonna kill you, too.

Allie: Whoever you are, this is sick.

Charlie: Allie, you know who I am. I’m your old friend charlie.

Allie: No, charlie’s dead and it’s–it’s sick for you to put this ridiculous mask on and come here.

Charlie: I had to come. I had to see you again.

Allie: Who are you? Why are you doing this to me?

Charlie: Do you really think this is a mask? You think I’m kristen dimera out trick-or-treating?

Allie: [Gasps]

Charlie: Yeah, that’s what they keep telling me. Everybody keeps saying that. But you know what? You can’t keep a good man down. Technically, I–I think I am. But, you know, I hate labels. I think I’m gonna identify as undead now.

Allie: Go away.

Charlie: That’s not gonna happen.

Allie: Don’t touch me.

Charlie: Oh, don’t worry. Your virtue isn’t at risk. I didn’t come here to party. I’m on a mission. I–I think you know why I’m here.

Allie: No.

Charlie: Yes. I came here for my son.

Gabi: It can’t be. I killed you.

Nick: Sorry, which time are you talking about? The–the first time where you– you bashed my head in with a rock? That time?

Gabi: I had to, I had to. No, stop, you’re hurting me!

Nick: I would never hurt you. Look at me.

Gabi: No!

[Gasping]

Nick: [Groans, thuds]

[Breathing heavily]

Nick: So there you were with a dead body on your hands. So you called your friends, sami and kate. You guys decided to toss me in the river. Great plan. Only one small, small, tiny little problem.

[Whispers] I wasn’t dead. I came back, didn’t I? Just like I’m back now.

Deimos: Nicole, nicole, nicole. [Chuckles] You look lovely as always. I will never forget how absolutely radiant you were in red the night you killed me.

Nicole: Dr. Rolf. Dr. Rolf brought you back?

Deimos: [Chuckles] No, no, no, no. The one who brought me back is a hell of a lot more powerful than dr. Rolf. And quite a bit more evil.

Nicole: Who?

Deimos: Well, I’m sorry, at the moment that information is classified. I may have said too much already. But then again, you always had a way of getting me to open up, to drop my guard. Do you remember how much I opened up my soul to you?

Nicole: Oh, you didn’t have one.

Deimos: You know, I’ve often thought–you know, because when you’re dead, you actually have a lot of time for reflection. So I have often thought that it was really ironic that the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with, ended it. In cold blood. No remorse. That just didn’t sit well with me, nicole. So I came here to tell you that I still hold a grudge. Serena: It’s my 3:10

Nicole: I did not murder you in cold blood.

Deimos: Oh, sweetheart. I was there, remember? Victim and eyewitness. I was totally defenseless and you stabbed me in the heart!

Deimos: I was really sorry to hear what happened to holly. How you lost her.

Deimos: I’m the one who made it happen.

Deimos: All it took was one more corrupt judge. Lucky for me, huh?

Nicole: Innocent? You broke the laws of man and god in order to take my daughter. She was innocent. She was defenseless and you used her like a pawn to get what you wanted. And what you wanted was depraved. I didn’t murder you. I put you down like a rabid dog.

Deimos: You played god. And up until now you thought you got away with it. I think they call that a fool’s paradise. But it’s over. Because now you’re face to face with the man who knows that you’re nothing more than a murdering whore. And a man who also knows that you were never even charged, let alone punished for what you did. But that all ends tonight. And I guarantee you, nicole, the punishment is gonna fit the crime.

Eli: Jeez.

Rafe: Yeah.

Eli: What have we got?

Rafe: The victim’s name’s carmine merlino. Same guy that shot abe.

Eli: Do we know who killed him?

Rafe: No. I just came home, found him dead on my kitchen floor.

Gabi: And I told you yesterday that carmine’s mob boss is none other than your precious ava. So if you want answers, why don’t you talk to her?

Eli: Oh, I know that look. You know something, don’t you?

Rafe: Yeah. Yeah, I do.

Ava: Don’t you see? Don’t you see? We have to get out of here. We have to get out of salem because charlie’s not going to stop until he gets the both of us.

Tripp: Mom, he’s dead.

Ava: No. He is back. I saw him.

Tripp: And there’s a good reason for that, okay? But you need to calm down and listen to me, as a doctor. All right, this is just like what happened to you when charlie drugged you.

Ava: What?

Tripp: Remember? You thought you saw charlie kill me and then you thought you saw dad carrying me out to bury me.

Ava: I was not drugged tonight.

Tripp: It doesn’t matter, okay? All right, people who have taken hallucinogens like the ones charlie gave you can have hallucinations for years to come. There’s medical documentation that shows that those drugs can result in serious residual effects including flashbacks and delusions. Like what happened to you tonight. The drug stays in your body for a long time.

Ava: Okay, tripp, listen to me. I remember the delusions back then, okay? Tonight was not like that. Tonight– tonight was real. It was like I could reach out and I could touch him. Oh, my god.

Tripp: What?

Ava: Allie, allie. We need to call allie. We need to warn her. We need to tell her to grab henry and run.

Allie: Don’t say that you’re henry’s father. You’re not.

Charlie: You can’t have it both ways, allie. You can’t accuse me of raping you and say henry isn’t mine.

Allie: What you did to me has nothing to do with being a father. You don’t even know him.

Kate: I can see that. But I’m glad you’re still here because actually, I came to see you.

Julie: Really? Why?

Kate: I was going to call but I have a feeling that you wouldn’t pick up when you saw it was me. And I wanted to invite you to thanksgiving.

Julie: Oh, really? And what were you expecting me to bring? A poisoned pumpkin pie perhaps?

Kate: Well, actually, I was pretty sure that you wouldn’t accept. So it was a fairly painless way for me to extend myself.

Julie: Isn’t that how you always extend yourself, kate?

Kate: You know, julie, all joking aside, I’m genuinely sorry for doug’s situation.

Julie: Thank you very much. But I’m sure you didn’t come here just to say that.

Kate: No, actually, I didn’T. I came here to tell you that your cousin, nick fallon, is back from the dead.

Nick: You nearly jumped out of your skin when I showed up very much alive in that church. I mean, god, the hypocrisy! A gay and a murderess having their kid baptized.

[Laughs]

Gabi: I wasn’t a murderess because you weren’t dead yet. But you know what? I should’ve hit you three or four times with that rock because the world is a much better place without you.

Nick: But you made sure you killed me the second time around.

Gabi: For trying to take ari and me away from everyone we loved.

Nick: No. No excuses. It was premeditated murder, gabi. You even admitted it.

Gabi: Then I got the gun out of the closet and loaded it. I found the silencer there with it so I put that on. Then I stuck it inside the diaper bag.

Nick: You confessed. You gave a statement to the police.

Gabi: I served time. I paid my debt to society.

Nick: I don’t give a crap about society. I’m talking about your debt to me. You shot me three times and then got off on a technicality.

Gabi: I paid, first in prison and then, when I got out, your bitch cousin, julie, made sure that I kept paying for the rest of my life.

Nick: Not enough. Not nearly enough. Well, as you can see, I survived the second time you murdered me, too. And now I’m back and I am going to make you pay. What’s that expression they say? Oh, yeah. Third time’s a charm.

[ Crow squawks ]

Charlie: You bitch!

Allie: Please, god, please.

Charlie: You knew he wasn’t in there. Give me that. Fun and games are over, allie. You’re gonna tell me where the hell my son is.

Tripp: It’s okay. It’s okay. Henry’s inside the pub with roman and lucas.

Ava: Call allie.

Tripp: No. Mom, I’m not gonna scare her for no reason, okay? Charlie’s dead, mom. You watched him die. You don’t have to worry about him anymore. He can’t hurt you.

Ava: I saw him.

Tripp: You thought you saw him. I have already explained that to you. All right, now– if you won’t go to the hospital, I’m gonna take you home.

Ava: No, you’re not. We are not going home because there is a dead body there.

Tripp: I promise you, there isn’T. I’ll–I’ll go with you. I’ll prove it to you, okay?

Eli: Rafe?

Rafe: [Sighs] Right, okay. Look, what you need to know is there’s a possibility that ava is involved in this.

Eli: Okay.

Rafe: We’ll know more when we get the time of death. But, um, I think that we’re gonna find that gabi was with jake at the station when he was murdered and ava was the only one who was here.

Eli: Right. And?

Rafe: And when david was running the vitali crime family, carmine worked for her.

Eli: You–you think he came here to see her?

Rafe: Well, I don’t think he came here to see me. You know, my guess is that he probably knew that jake was in custody, so he came here to see ava. And gabi said she thinks that ava’s the one who helped merlino get away when he shot abe.

Eli: Rafe, you need to hand over this case to me.

Rafe: I–I know, okay? I know. But listen to me. I’m just going on what gabi said to me, and it wouldn’t be the first time that she has fed me a load of crap. Not to mention, ava said that she was out of the mob. So you know, she could be jerking me around too. I mean, what a– what a great domestic situation I’m in, right?

[Phone rings[

Eli: You know you’re gonna have to make a statement, right?

Rafe: Yeah, I know. Great, I’m sure this is more good news. Hernandez. Son of a bitch! Okay.

Eli: What is it?

Rafe: Jake dimera escaped lock-up. Oh, my god, what has gabi done this time?

Gabi: Are you gonna kill me?

Nick: Hm. Mm, no. That would be too easy. I decided that if the opportunity ever rose from the dead, so to speak, that I didn’t want you to die. I wanted you to suffer. And to that end, I decided to kill your boyfriend.

[Laughs]

Gabi: Jake?

Nick: Yeah, jake. Your beloved jake. Oh, wow, gabi, I mean, what a loser that guy is. I mean, you’re really rolling around at the bottom of the barrel there.

Gabi: Please, he’s never done anything to you. I’m the one that you hate.

Nick: Yeah, I think of it more like collateral damage. Because his death would be the gift that keeps on giving. You would live the rest of your life knowing that his blood is on your hands.

Gabi: Please, please, please, I’m begging you, please don’t kill him. Please don’T.

Nick: Oh, gabi. What if it’s already too late?

Nicole: [Gasps] Don’t come any closer.

Deimos: And what are you gonna do, huh? You gonna kill me again? Go ahead. Do your worst.

Nicole: [Screams]

Deimos: [Breathing heavily] Charmin ultra soft has so much cushiony softness,

Nicole: [Screams]

[Choking]

[Coughs and gasps]

Rafe: So when jake and the cop who was taking him back to his cell didn’t show up, they did a search and they found the cop knocked out cold and jake nowhere to be found.

Eli: That was a stupid ass thing for jake to do.

Rafe: If it was jake.

Eli: You don’t think it was him?

Rafe: Well, it doesn’t make any sense. He was cooperating. He gave a full confession. He even seemed guilty that his gun was used to shoot abe. He just–you know, I–I talked to him. I asked him to be patient, that things would sort themselves out and he seemed to agree.

Eli: But not gabi?

Rafe: Well, I told her to be patient. Like that would ever work.

Eli: All right. You think gabi would take matters into her own hands?

Rafe: Well, I’m about to find out. God, what a night.

Julie: What do you mean nick is back from the dead?

Kate: Well, two trick-or-treaters at the pub said they saw him tonight.

Julie: And that’s what– think, kate. A couple of trick-or-treaters saw a couple of other trick-or-treaters and one of them must have been dressed like nick.

Kate: Well, that would presuppose that they’re selling nick fallon halloween costumes this year.

Julie: You know what I mean.

Kate: Ah, well, maybe you’re right. I mean, what kid wouldn’t want to dress up like a psycho killer, right?

Julie: Nick was not a psycho killer.

Kate: Don’t get defensive.

Julie: Kate, for once in your life, instead of being hurtful and nasty, why don’t you try showing a little empathy for a young man who had a very difficult life and was traumatized by what happened to him in prison.

Kate: Right. Then he set out to traumatize gabi hernandez in exactly the same way.

Julie: Well, gabi got her revenge, didn’t she? Shot him three times. You may not recall but I remember very clearly because he died in my arms.

Kate: Allegedly.

Gabi: What do you mean, “it’s too late”?

Nick: Well, what it means is that after I rose up out of my grave, which by the way, you really should’ve seen it. It would have knocked your socks off. Anyway, then I–I went down to the police station.

Gabi: Why?

Nick: To find the boyfriend, of course.

Gabi: How did you know he was there?

Nick: Oh, see the undead have this sort of, um, telepathic gps system. Anyway, aren’t you getting caught up in little details? Don’t you want to know what happened? What I did? Not which bus I took to get there?

Gabi: What happened?

Nick: Well, I got down to the station and your boyfriend was being escorted to a cell. I intercepted him.

Gabi: And what did you do?

Nick: Well, as a recent acquaintance of mine once said–really funny guy– “if it were done “when ’tis done, “then ’twere well it was done quickly.”

Gabi: Oh, my god. Did you already kill him?

Allie: I will never tell you where henry is.

Charlie: Not willingly.

Allie: You will never again be in the same room as my son.

Charlie: My son!

Allie: Not in any way that matters.

Charlie: Who’s the father then, huh? Tripp? The two of you. Oh, classic love story. Boy meets girl, girl falsely accuses boy of rape.

Allie: Tripp knows why I did that. It’s because you screwed me up by what you did to me. Hell, everybody knows that it was you. Hey, charlie, did you notice how few people attended your funeral? Did you know that I didn’t? I was afraid that I’d be fined for excessive celebration.

Ava: I told you. I told you there was a dead body. You didn’t believe me. I was telling the truth.

Tripp: I’m sorry. I just thought that– eli, what happened?

Eli: There’s been a homicide.

Tripp: Who was it?

Eli: Carmine merlino. He was the man who shot abe. Ms. Vitali, I’m sorry, but I gotta take you down to the station for questioning. Turns out deb’s constipation with belly pain

[Eerie music]

Nicole: Rafe. I gotta call rafe.

[Line ringing]

Allie: You know how you’re always whining about how mommy loves tripp best?

Charlie: Stop it.

Allie: Well, she does. Of course she does. Because as dumb and creepy as you are, that’s how cool and smart he is.

Charlie: Stop talking about tripp!

Allie: You brought him up. You always bring him up.

Charlie: Shut up.

Allie: Imagine having a mother who has two sons and one of them is everything a mother could ever want and the other one is the definition of “loser.”

Charlie: I said shut up!

Tripp: Why do you need to question my mom?

Eli: The deceased was a former associate of hers. He worked for her when she was in charge of the vitali mob.

Tripp: You said that–

Eli: She–she said that what, tripp?

Ava: I didn’t kill him. It was charlie. I saw him.

Eli: Who’s charlie?

Ava: My son. He killed carmine. I saw it.

Eli: Ms. Vitali, charlie is dead.

Ava: Rafe. I need to talk to rafe.

Rafe: So you say you saw my sister say goodbye to jake. Okay, did you actually see her leave?

Cop: She came out of the interrogation room and maxwell and i went in to get dimera. She wasn’t here when we brought him out.

Rafe: Okay. And then maxwell took him down.

Cop: And I started the paperwork.

Rafe: And he was cuffed?

Cop: It’s procedure, isn’t it?

Rafe: Okay, yet somehow, jake still managed to hit maxwell over the head and escape? Did you happen to see where he went?

Cop: No.

Rafe: Right. Right, my sister’s not answering my calls. What the hell is going on?

Gabi: Did you kill jake? Tell me!

Nick: Let me put it to you this way. I happened to have an empty grave at my disposal. And I figured I might as well put it to good use. It’s my woke-up-like-this migraine medicine.

Kate: Hmm, yeah. Well, he did manage to crawl back out of the water, didn’t he? But I think it is highly unlikely that he managed to crawl out of the grave after being shot three times. Although…

Nicole: No, he is in there. Dead on the floor with a pair of scissors in his chest. Go look for yourself.

Ava: I don’t need a lawyer. I need you to listen to me. Okay? Charlie is back. He came back, he killed carmine, and then he was going to kill me.

Eli: Maybe what you need is a doctor.

Nicole: Okay. I won’T. So I hear you’re engaged to paulina.

Abe: Oh.

Nicole: Are you happy?

Abe: Believe it or not, this is a happy face.

Nicole: Oh, sorry. I saw lani and theo dragging paulina to the elevator.

Abe: Well, she’s been here for two days straight. She needs some rest.

Rafe: Known associate of some major mob types in philadelphia. And we also found his prints on your gun.

Jake: [Laughs] Well, I was afraid that the mayor would forget everything that happened before the shooting.

Gabi: Well, he didn’T. And that’s not the only good news. Go on, tell him.

Rafe: Abe overheard carmine admitting that he’s the one who whacked zanetti, not you.

Jake: [Laughs]

Gabi: And now that he’s been cleared from these bogus charges, will you please take these handcuffs off him?

Rafe: Hmm. Not just yet.

Gabi: What?

Carmine: Hey!

Ava: What are you doing here, huh? This is the police commissioner’s house, for god’s sake.

Carmine: I had to see you.

Ava: You were supposed to be lying low.

Carmine: Don’t get much lower than the town dump. You know how bad that place stinks?

Ava: Yeah, well, no one’s gonna find you there, are they? Thought you liked playing tony soprano.

Carmine: What am I supposed to do, hide out in sewers for the rest of my life?

Gabi: Well, it beats life in prison, doesn’t it? And that’s exactly where you’re headed. Rafe could come home any minute.

Carmine: I don’t think you get what I’m saying, so let me make myself clear. You either find me some five-star accommodation, or you’re gonna wind up in the cell right next to mine.

Allie: A walk through the cemetery? That’s your idea of fun?

Tripp: What, are you scared?

Allie: Me? No.

Tripp: Okay, well, I just thought maybe, you know, that stuff with the ouija board with your brother freaked you out.

Allie: I’m fine.

Tripp: Good. ‘Cause I’ve always, you know, thought it’d be cool to done one of those ghost tour things on halloween.

Allie: Why? I mean, halloween isn’t any different than every other night.

Tripp: Oh, yeah? Okay, let’s go.

Demon marlena: So… little allie horton doesn’t believe in the supernatural… even after what I did to her grandmother. I guess I’ll just have to make her a believer. Rise up. Rise up, charlie dale! And prove to allie that my powers are real.

[Sinister music]

Gabi: What do you mean not yet? You heard abe. Jake’s innocent.

Rafe: Of attempting to murder abe. But he is guilty of bringing a loaded firearm to a public park, which is against city ordinances, not to mention the fact that the da’s gonna want to speak to him about all his priors with merlino, not to mention the philly pd.

Gabi: [Scoffs] Come on!

Rafe: You know the best way to help yourself? Roll on merlino: Who his friends are, who might want to help him out, that sort of thing.

Jake: Okay, I haven’t had any dealings with the guy in years, I swear.

Gabi: And I told you yesterday that carmine’s mob boss is none other than your precious ava. So if you want answers, why don’t you talk to her?

Ava: I had nothing to do with you shooting the mayor. I didn’t even know you were in salem.

Carmine: Oh, yeah? Well, let’s talk about something you do know, like how you and phil kiriakis wanted me to help you frame jake dimera, all so you could steal your boyfriend’s little sister’s company. I got to hand it to you, boss.

[Laughs] Shacking up with the police commissioner and sticking it to his little sister all at the same time? That’s moxie. But just you wait until he hears about all the stuff you pulled in philly.

Ava: He’s not gonna hear about anything.

Carmine: If I go down for shooting the mayor, I ain’t going alone. I’m taking you with me.

Ava: Oh, you threatening me?

Carmine: Oh, yeah.

Tripp: Okay, okay, so if we cut through the alley, we should be, like, a block north of the cemetery. What, is something wrong?

Allie: I can’t do it. I’m sorry.

Tripp: What? Why didn’t you just say so?

Allie: I’m not superstitious, but cemeteries really creep me out. I mean, I don’t like being surrounded by a bunch of dead people, especially on halloween. I don’t care if they’re six feet under.

Demon marlena: Marlena’s granddaughter needs to be taught a lesson.

Charlie: If you’re talking about allie horton, I’d like to teach her a few lessons myself.

Demon marlena: Ah. I thought you’d be a very good match for the job.

Charlie: I have scores to settle with lots of folks in salem.

Demon marlena: The more mischief you make, the happier I’ll be. So why don’t you just get to it?

Tripp: No, no, that’s okay. I’d rather be with you. And besides, I think we could figure out something else to do.

Allie: No. No, I’m just–

Tripp: Just what?

Allie: Okay, I’m a little upset. When I walked into the hospital, I saw you and chanel talking, and she said that you guys were talking about abe. But you weren’t, were you? You were talking about me.

Nicole: Abe, I’m so sorry it took you getting shot for me to come see you.

Abe: Oh, I– I should’ve checked in with you. How are you? How are you doing?

Nicole: [Chuckles] You’re the one who gets shot, and you’re asking me how I’m doing.

Abe: I heard that you and eric split up. And I–I should’ve called you.

Nicole: I guess you figured out that I never sent him the email.

Abe: The one that you said would end your marriage?

Nicole: I was unfaithful to him. I should’ve known it was gonna come out.

Abe: Well, what are you gonna do? I mean, are you gonna try to work this out?

Nicole: No. We’re getting a divorce.

Abe: For sure?

Nicole: We just realized that we don’t belong together.

Abe: Oh, that makes me sad.

Nicole: Yeah. Me too. No, I’ve lain awake a lot of nights thinking about why it happened.

Abe: What’d you come up with?

Nicole: I know eric loved me. But I wonder now if he really wanted to be married.

Abe: What do you mean?

Nicole: I worked a lot with him at st. Luke’s, and he loved being a priest.

Abe: Well, that got taken away from him.

Nicole: Yes. But he never stopped missing that life. And I think his work in africa made him feel closer to who he was then.

Abe: Yeah. I see what you mean.

Nicole: I–I’m not saying the divorce is his fault. I’m just trying to find a way to forgive myself so that I can move on. I’m seeing someone.

Abe: Is he–is he worthy?

Nicole: I don’t really know how to answer that. It’s ej dimera.

Abe: Are you kidding?

Nicole: I–I’m sorry, abe, if that upsets you. I know you can’t stand him.

Abe: I thought you couldn’t either.

Nicole: I couldn’T. And when things blew up between him and me, I was sure I would never even be in the same room as him.

Abe: What changed?

Nicole: Well, for one thing, he started to pursue me, not the other way around.

Abe: [Sighs] And the other thing?

Nicole: He helps me forget someone else, someone that you would have approved of.

Abe: What went wrong?

Nicole: As usual, my timing is lousy. So by the time I figured out he was the one, another lucky woman snapped him up.

Gabi: So I tell you that ava’s the one that hooked up carmine and philip, yet you go home and tell her nothing.

Rafe: I didn’t go home last night, for the record. I was directing the manhunt for carmine.

Gabi: Ava knows where he is, yet you continue to harass jake and you keep him locked up here for no reason!

Jake: Gabi, it’s okay.

Gabi: No, no, it’s not okay. You think that you have rehabilitated that bitch? But why don’t you just do your job?

Rafe: Oh, I know how to do my job. I called ava, and we are playing phone tag.

Gabi: Phone tag, rafe? Come on! She doesn’t want to answer. She doesn’t want to admit that she was carmine’s mob boss. I will bet you anything she was the one that got carmine to get away.

Ava: Thought you knew better than to threaten your boss.

Carmine: My boss?

Ava: Mm.

Carmine: You? [Laughs] You used to wield a knife with the best of them. But now you’re using it to cut up eggplant in a dump like this. You traded in your gat for a– for a sculabast! So no, I ain’t afraid of you no more.

Ava: You better be.

Demon marlena: And by the way, you haven’t thanked me for bringing you back from the dead. Didn’t your mother teach you any manners?

Charlie: Matter of fact, she skipped manners.

Demon marlena: [Laughs]

Charlie: Thank you for bringing me back from the dead.

Demon marlena: That’s more like it. Now, you know what I want you to do, so get out there and wreak some havoc for me.

Gabi: Oh, come on. Ava and philip, they started this whole carmine situation. She reached out to carmine. He told her that garbage about jake killing zanetti. And philip told me flat out that if I didn’t sign over gabi chic, he was gonna use that made-up crap to get jake.

Rafe: And why would ava want to help philip?

Gabi: Because she– she wants to run gabi chic.

Rafe: And you never thought of telling me this?

Gabi: I didn’t want to make more trouble for jake. And mainly I didn’t think you would believe me.

Jake: Hey, everything she’s saying is true.

Rafe: Okay. Why would philip want to get rid of you?

Gabi: Mm, he wants to run gabi chic his own way.

Rafe: You want me to trust you? Why don’t you try telling me the truth for once?

Gabi: What? Wait, where are you going?

Rafe: I’m going to see abe. I will have someone come and take you back to lockup.

Tripp: What makes you think chanel and i were talking about you?

Tripp: Okay. You’re right, I’m sorry. This isn’t really my… favorite subject.

Allie: What isn’t?

Tripp: Me being more into you than you’re into me.

Allie: Because you told me you love me and I couldn’t say it back.

Tripp: I didn’t know you told chanel about that.

Allie: She’s my best friend. And I only told her that because I feel so awful. I mean, not only are you cute and sexy and smart, but you take care of henry in the morning so I can go to work. I mean, you fixed his hole in his blanket.

[Sighs] I’m the luckiest girl in the world to be with a guy like you. And saying “I love you,” I just–it’s not about you.

Tripp: Hey, look, you don’t have to explain anything, okay? I didn’t even want to bring it up. I don’t want you to feel any type of pressure, okay?

Allie: I told you, I’ve never said “I love you” to anyone. And after what charlie did to me… I know it’s awful to say, but I’m glad he’s dead. It’s so much easier to put him out of my mind when I know he’s out of my life forever.

[Suspenseful music]

Demon marlena: [Laughs] Julie williams. I should’ve known. The only mortal dumb enough to have mourned this fallen angel.

[Scoffs] Nicholas fallon. Yeah. Yeah, the one who single-handedly tried to bring down the horton family. You certainly muddied up that name, didn’t you?

[Chuckles] Nice work. I do have one more job for you now, though.

Carmine: Look, if you ain’t gonna help me out, I’m gonna have to take this situation into my own hands.

Ava: Get out.

Carmine: Shut up. I’m gonna take this moppine and I’m gonna wrap it three times around that skinny little neck. The perfect way for a casalinga to go.

[Tense music]

Charlie: Mother, I’m home. We do it every night.

Ava: You–you can’t be here. You’re–you’re dead.

Charlie: And now I’m undead. This guy…he’s dead. Hey, I just saved your life. How about a “thank you, charlie?”

Ava: Thank you.

Charlie: “Charlie.”

Ava: Charlie.

Charlie: Will this make you love me?

Ava: What? I–I told you. I told you the night that you died.

Charlie: Yeah, but i don’t think you meant it. I think you were happy to have me off your hands.

Ava: No.

Charlie: Yeah.

Ava: No.

Charlie: I heard what you said about your poor dead son. You’ll never love me, will you? I’ll never be perfect like your sainted tripp.

Ava: No, no, that’s not true.

Charlie: You don’t exactly seem happy to see me.

Ava: Okay. Okay, this is a nightmare. This is a nightmare. It has to be. This can’t be–this can’t be happening.

Charlie: Oh, it will be. I want you to see the hell that I call home, sweet home.

Charlie: [Grunts]

[Growls]

Abe: So you said that this man who got away is someone I approve of. So I assume that means I know him.

[Knock at door] Rafe?

Rafe: Hey.

Abe: Hey.

Rafe: Listen, I am sorry to interrupt, but I just need to get your statement and I’ll be out of here.

Nicole: You know what? I–I was just gonna head out, let abe get some rest.

Abe: Oh. Well, here. All right. And–

Rafe: Thank you.

Abe: You know, my– my eyelids are getting a little heavy. Look, so glad to see you. Don’t be a stranger.

Nicole: I won’t be. I promise.

Rafe: I’ll see you soon, abe. All right? Take care.

Abe: Yes, sir.

Rafe: You got time for a coffee?

Nicole: Yeah, sure, why not? Yeah.

[Soft dramatic music]

Gabi: I cannot believe him! I mean, here you sit in handcuffs and he hasn’t said a word to ava!

Jake: He loves her. This is probably very hard for him.

Gabi: Oh, first of all, how do you know he loves– no. Second of all, why are you being so nice about him?

Jake: Because, gabi, he’s right. I’m not innocent. I brought carmine to salem and I brought a loaded gun to our meeting in the park.

Gabi: Yeah, but you were just trying to scare him off.

Jake: I know. Carmine took the gun from me and then used it to shoot the mayor.

Gabi: But you didn’t shoot anybody, okay? Not abe, not zanetti. You just–you don’t have it in you, unlike me. I killed nick fallon not once but twice! And he had it coming to him both times!

Demon marlena: Ah, nick fallon. This isn’t your first undead rodeo, is it?

Nick: Yours either, dr. Evans.

Demon marlena: Whoo! Don’t call me by her name! Oh, you have become quite a handsome little devil, haven’t you? Struck down in your prime. And yet there you are, still so young and handsome… and tempting. Better skin from your body wash?

Demon marlena: Mwah.

[Laughs]

Nick: Is that why you raised me from the dead?

Demon marlena: No. That was just a little diversion.

[Gasps] John black must be turning over in his crypt.

Nick: So what do you want me to do?

Demon marlena: If I were to give you one day back on earth, how would you spend it?

Nick: Hmm. If it were up to me, I guess I’d avenge my death.

Demon marlena: [Laughing] Oh! Good idea! And you could start with that little tart gabi hernandez.

Nick: I thought you liked her.

Demon marlena: Well, marlena likes her okay. I guess I’m all right with her when she’s doing my bidding. And I might need one more person to join my little army of the undeads. Of course, she would have to die tonight.

Gabi: Abe’s statement will say you didn’t do anything wrong. Carmine had the gun. Carmine shot abe. My brother’s just too embarrassed to admit that he got suckered by ava. But I know him. I know he’s thinking about it, realizing I’m right.

Jake: You really think ava helped carmine go underground?

Gabi: Who else can make him disappear like that? That bitch has not changed. She is pure evil. Oh, I can see the scene right now. When rafe confronts her, she’s gonna beg and cry. But you know what? This time, rafe is not gonna let her squirm out of this. She is out of the house for good and on her way to prison.

Nicole: Mm. When you said you’d buy me a cup of coffee, I thought you’d take me someplace where there’s decent coffee.

Rafe: Yeah, yeah, I was thinking that too. And yeah, but then I rethought it.

Nicole: ‘Cause I said we should keep our distance for the sake of ava?

Rafe: Yup.

Nicole: Mm-hmm.

Rafe: Right. That. But I do need to ask you some questions.

Nicole: About what?

Rafe: A police matter. And it’s also personal for me. I have reason to believe that the woman I’m living with might be indirectly responsible for abe getting shot.

Nicole: Are you kidding?

Rafe: Yeah, I wish I was. I got to ask you, did ava ever give you any indication that the mob life she left behind wasn’t actually that far behind her?

Nicole: Well, can I ask you what–what got you thinking about that?

Rafe: Gabi. So obviously, I have to be careful. She hates ava, and, well, we both know what she’s capable of when she hates someone. But I got to tell you, after talking with her tonight, I got to think that maybe there’s a chance she’s telling the truth this time. And I’ve been a damn fool.

Tripp: You don’t have to explain anything or apologize for–

Allie: I want you to know this. Those three little words have been on the tip of my tongue so many times. And now I feel like maybe–

[Cell phone ringing]

Tripp: Hang on. It’s my mom. Hey, mom.

Demon marlena: Don’t ever use the g-word around me!

Nick: “Greek”?

Demon marlena: Oh, for a smart guy, you’re such a dodo. No! The other g-word.

Nick: Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to offend.

Deimos: Great. To do what?

Demon marlena: To right all the wrongs done to you, starting with nicole walker. She never, never paid for killing you. She didn’t even tell many people that she’d done it.

[Sighs] Pity. Nicole used to be one of mine. But then she fell in love with marlena’s son. But now her eric has left her. So she’s ripe for the picking. Go. Reap your vengeance.

Deimos: I’ve waited a long time for this.

Nicole: Well, I talk to ava a lot, and…

Rafe: Yeah.

Nicole: She hasn’t said anything that’s made me wonder if she’s still in contact with her family.

Rafe: Huh. What about philip? Have you heard anything from him?

Nicole: No, nothing at all. In fact, philip and brady are at war over chloe, so they’re not exactly confidants.

Rafe: Huh. Well, maybe gabi’s making up stories again. You know, she and ava, it’s like living with two pieces of flint. I never know which spark’s gonna start the fire.

Nicole: I think the best thing that you can do is just talk to ava and try to have an open mind.

Rafe: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that’s– okay, well, thank you for everything, you know.

Nicole: You’re my friend, and I just want you to be happy.

Rafe: Yeah, I want the same for you. So doing something with holly tonight?

Nicole: [Laughs] Nothing, actually. She is having a sleepover at her best friend, rebecca’S. And rebecca’s mom is taking them trick-or-treating first, so that makes rebecca’s mom either a saint or a martyr.

[Laughs] Or maybe both.

Rafe: Maybe.

[Both laugh] So no plans?

Nicole: I’m a little behind on work, so I’m gonna go to the office and try to catch up.

Rafe: Okay. Yeah. Well, you should be able to find some peace and quiet there.
