Phyllis: Oh, hey. Well, do you want to tell me what a miserable person I am, or listen to some of the ideas that I have, you know, or tell me I’m crazy? If I even have a job.

Phyllis: Right, well, that’s what it felt like. I mean, honestly, who talks to their mother like that?

Daniel: [ Sighs ] I was trying to offer very good advice. You need to let go of this unhealthy obsession with diane. I mean, it’s keeping you from focusing on this project, which I-I really, really want you to be a part of.

Phyllis: Okay, well, it didn’t sound like that was your point.

Daniel: Well, I’m sorry. I am. I love the idea of the two of us working together. I just need to know that you can let go of this vendetta. That’s it. So, I mean, your future with omega sphere is in your hands.

Abby: Hi. I just wanted to drop off dominic’s vitamins.

Devon: Oh. He’s not gonna like that you remembered. He hates these things.

Ashley: That would be showing my hand.

Victoria: I don’t think you’ve one-upped anyone this go-round.

Tucker: Give it time.

Daniel: Thank you. Mom, look, no one works harder than you, and no one is more creative. Hands down. I just need to know that you are fully focused on this job, and it’s not just an afterthought, or you’re coming up with new ways to go after diane.

Phyllis: You will get 97% of me.

Daniel: No. No 97%, mom. It needs to be all or nothing. Look, I want to work with you not just because of your insane gaming skills, but because of the way that they make you feel, you know? You light up like a little kid. And that’s the version of you that this platform needs.

Phyllis: I get it. I get it. Okay? You got me. I mean, this is more than just a business to you. I understand.

Daniel: Do you?

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. Yeah.

Daniel: Do you remember when I asked you to be a part of this venture? I sat there with you and dad. I told you how I felt everything in my life had just gone sideways. You know, how heather and lucy, they — they were finally sick and tired of my self-serving, toxic attitude? “Finding princess louisa” was born out of that chaos. And it’s the centerpiece. Phyllis: Wait, wait, wait. What are you talking about? Is there a problem with chancellor-winters? Is everything okay there?

Devon: Yeah, for sure, but you’re more than welcome to stay, too, if you want. She knows everything that’s been going on.

Abby: Well, I — none of the details. You know, I just know that this has taken a toll on devon.

Lily: Yeah. Well, I’m glad he has someone to talk to about it, ’cause this has been really hard on all of us. But I really think that we can find a solution that we all can live with.

Devon: Well, that’s just it. I think that, uh, it needs to be more than just something we can live with. I think that the solution should be something that we all feel good about. And your and jill’s offer to buy me out doesn’t really make me feel good.

Lily: Well, you haven’t heard numbers or specifics —

Devon: I know, I haven’t, and I don’t really need to, ’cause I’ve made up my mind. And my answer is no. I’m steve, I lost 138 pounds in nine months on golo

Daniel: Look, you know how things go at newly merged companies.

Phyllis: Yeah, everything’s in flux. I get it. You didn’t elaborate before, but you sort of insinuated that omega sphere could be in jeopardy at chancellor-winters.

Daniel: Well, lily told me she’s still interested in launching the platform.

Phyllis: But there’s no guarantee.

Daniel: I have a contract.

Phyllis: Well, it doesn’t matter. You don’t have the commitment from the two ceos. So the contract is not that important. Listen, we’re talking about a game that’s still in development, at a company that’s unclear. I mean, there are no guarantees here.

Daniel: Sometimes you just got to have faith.

Phyllis: Yeah. You know what’s better than faith? Cold, hard cash and job security. I mean, they could be thinking that this is too much of a risk. Hmm. I’m not going to let that happen to you.

Daniel: Well, unfortunately, it’s not in your hands.

Phyllis: Hmm. Really? Did you really say that to me? You underestimate me, my son. I fight for my children, and you know that. I also listen to them. I’m going to take what you said about diane to heart.

Daniel: Really?

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. What, you don’t believe me? What, I have to wait a lifetime to change my mind? I could just change my mind right now. I need to move on. I agree with you. I need to forget about the past and put my attention on omega sphere and everything that you want that to be, like — like, um, princess louisa’s garden.

Daniel: I really hope you mean that.

Phyllis: I do mean that. I do. And I also want to help you out with this, because I don’t want this to just be in corporate limbo. Do you know what I mean?

Phyllis: Well, what I’m saying is, if chancellor-winters doesn’t get on it, we may have to get a backup plan.

Victoria: I think that time is probably the last thing that you need, given that you have other people doing your dirty work for you.

Tucker: What does that mean?

Victoria: I know about your connection with audra charles. She’s working for you behind the scenes. Stilettos on the ground, worming her way into chancellor-winters, reporting back to you, sharing insider secrets.

Tucker: I can’t imagine where you would hear such a thing.

Victoria: Well, you know, secrets have a way of not staying secret for very long.

Tucker: Aha, I’m going to remember that one. ‘Cause as an invasive species, I-I must learn to adapt.

Victoria: Mm, but you won’T. You will try to destroy everything in your path until you get what you want. Is newman next? Do we need to prepare ourselves for another embarrassing attempt at a coup?

Tucker: Oh, I’m just — I’m just one man, one lowly species and —

Billy: Tucker, tucker, what — what are you doing now?

Tucker: [ Chuckles ] See that, right on time, gallantly swooping in to protect the damsel?

Billy: No, no. Victoria can handle herself. But you can go ahead and take this as a warning. Don’t do anything else to mess with my family.

Billy: Not as nice as yours. Do I want to know what the hell that is all about?

Victoria: It always pays to know what’s going on with tucker mccall, especially because right now, he is a man searching for a battle.

Lily: Abby, would you mind giving us a minute alone?

Abby: Of course.

Lily: Thank you.

Devon: She doesn’t have to go anywhere, lily, ’cause there’s nothing else for us to discuss, since you don’t want to negotiate. And this is not a business decision, it’s a personal decision.

Lily: Jill and I came up with solutions that satisfy both the personal and business issues.

Devon: Who does it satisfy, aside from you and jill? Like, what do I get out of it?

Lily: What do you mean, what do you get out of it? You get the money and the name.

Devon: I have money. You already know that. And I can come up with a new name. That’s not what’s important to me. What matters is what the name represents, and that’s the actual company that neil and I built.

Lily: Devon, you can rebuild, and you can make it something that comes from you.

Devon: I have no interest in starting from scratch. I’m sorry. I want my company back in its entirety without any strings. It’s as simple as that.

Lily: [ Sighs ] I don’t see how you think that —

Devon: That’s the problem is that you don’t see anything else except from your perspective.

Lily: Wow. Hasn’t this come full circle? That’s exactly what nate said about you.

Devon: Uh, okay. And you know what he tried to do originally? He left the company. Which is what I’m trying to do, but you won’t let me. You will not let me leave and take my company that i poured my heart and soul into, that is already established and already has a foundation and respect from its competitors. You want me to walk away from all that and be fine with it? That’s kind of hurtful.

Lily: Devon, I’m trying to be fair.

Devon: I am trying to be fair, too. So let’s come up with something. How about — how about I pay you and jill whatever you guys ask for, within reason, to make up for whatever you think you’re gonna lose? ‘Cause that’s about the only option that I’m going to go for.

Lily: That’s the nuclear option.

Devon: If that’s how you see it.

Lily: Devon, jill made it very clear that buying you out was the only option. She is not going to break up the companies before we go public.

Devon: Okay. Then we go to court. Right before mike decided to say yes…

Lily: You really want to do that? You want to let lawyers sort this out?

Devon: Absolutely not, lily, but you and jill are trying to force me into this ipo move, even though I’ve expressed to you how I feel about it. So, I mean, what am I supposed to do?

Lily: Oh, I’m — I’m sorry. We forced you?

Devon: That’s what you’re doing.

Lily: You signed a contract. You agreed to go public, and now you want to back out, because it’s all about you. So I don’t know where you learned that you don’t have to keep your word, but it definitely was not from dad.

Devon: Okay, well, this has never been about me. It’s always been about honoring katherine and neil’s legacies.

Lily: Right, well, honoring their legacies is keeping the companies strong. And by backing out, all you’re doing is causing damage to both of them.

Devon: I disagree with that. I think by backing out, I’m keeping them out of the hands of people we don’t know and we don’t trust. And I don’t know how many times I have to explain that to you.

Lily: [ Scoffs ]

[ Sighs ] Okay. Nothing more to be said. So, I’m really sorry that it had to come to this.

Devon: I’m really sorry, too.

Victoria: I mean, what is he still doing in genoa city? He struck out already, both personally and professionally.

Billy: And I don’t see him, dom, and devon spending much family time together, either.

Victoria: Why doesn’t he just leave?

Billy: [ Sighs ] Because guys like that, they just don’t cut their losses and run, okay? But it’s not going to kill us to hope.

Victoria: He wants something. The question is what. I can’t afford to let him fall off my radar.

Billy: You feeling a little spread thin, having to spend so much energy on johnny and chelsea?

Victoria: I don’t know, maybe a little.

Billy: Well, pizza night was a big hit. Hmm? And that wouldn’t have happened without you.

Victoria: Well, I’m glad everybody had such a great time.

Billy: “Epic” was the word I heard most. And just to let you know, johnny is planning something fun for everybody to do together.

Victoria: Together? Like as a “family”?

Billy: Yeah, well —

Victoria: Billy, come on. I mean, it’s a — it’s a lot. I mean, I’m just getting used to this new dynamic. I think you would afford me the same compassion and care that you have given to chelsea. I mean, it’s hard on me, too.

Billy: I know that. I do. Look, you are his mother, okay? Every sneeze, cough, scraped knee, soccer game. And the fact that he is adjusting to this new landscape so well is a testament to you as a parent.

Victoria: I didn’t exactly do it alone.

Billy: Well, no. I mean, I did my part. But you deserve most of the credit for raising a strong, compassionate boy.

Victoria: This has been so difficult.

Billy: You know, we, uh — we try and tell kids it’s important to share, but it’s not easy to do. And you’re being asked to share a part of johnny’s heart with someone else.

Victoria: It’s really hard, billy. And I’m trying. I really am. I’m trying, but it’s — it’s hard.

Billy: Well, I mean, you could look at it this way. You are giving a gift to chelsea, johnny, and connor for that matter that is really incredible, one that they will not be able to repay.

Victoria: Johnny hasn’t been able to see how this is affecting me, has he?

Billy: No, no, no. No, you’ve done an amazing job trying to keep it from him. And I know what this is costing you, okay? I get it. But just so you know, I will always be there with you to do whatever we need to do for the kids. You’re the boss, okay? Well, co-boss.

Victoria: No, you were right the first time.

Billy: Mm…

Victoria: Thank you.

Billy: Okay. I’ll see you later.

Victoria: Yeah.

Tucker: Hey, victoria.

Victoria: You really are a glutton for punishment, aren’t you?

Tucker: I just wanted to give you an answer. Uh, I haven’t decided who my next victim is going to be, but I just want to assure you that if it is newman, you’ll be the last to know. What fun would it be if you saw it coming, right? Hey… it’s me! Your dry skin!

Billy: Hi.

Chelsea: Come on in. I’m so glad you could make it.

Billy: Yeah, what’s going on? You feeling good?

Chelsea: I’m feeling inspired.

Billy: Okay, well, that’s a good thing. And what brought that on?

Chelsea: So, I was just listening to this podcast of this person who has experience with depression and a suicide attempt.

Billy: Okay. And how did that go for you?

Chelsea: It got me thinking. You know, the two of us, we have a lot of experience, not just with podcasts, but with mental health crises and being a part of someone’s support system. What if we created something like this?

Billy: Another podcast?

Chelsea: Well, I mean, we have such a great rapport. We know each other so well. We obviously bring out the best in each other, you know? I mean, what if we used our stories and our voices to help people feel less alone?

Billy: Yeah, um… honest opinion?

Chelsea: Always.

Billy: I get the impulse. I-I do. But are you sure you’re ready to open yourself up that way? You know, it’s only been a couple months since…

Chelsea: Well, it’s all a journey, right? I mean, I’d have to talk to my therapist, of course, and explain all this to her and make sure she approves, but —

Billy: Yeah, you’d have to do that.

Chelsea: The idea excites me. And what’s more important, what’s more life-affirming than that?

Billy: [ Sighs ] No, I agree. It would be.

Chelsea: So? Does that mean you’ll do it?

Devon: Hey, I’m sorry that I put you in the middle of all that. It just felt like lily was trying to tell me who I could have in my house, and I didn’t like that. So I apologize for doing that to you.

Abby: Well, uh, family dust-ups aren’t easy to be a part of or to witness.

Devon: Yeah. Do you think that I’m wrong in all this?

Abby: Look, I understand why you’re taking this stance. But are you really prepared to go into a legal battle with your sister and jill?

Devon: I mean, what else am I supposed to do?

Abby: I remember you told me that you were worried that this was going to get ugly if you couldn’t reach a compromise.

Devon: I know, yeah, and I am still worried. That’s the last thing that I want to happen, but I feel like I don’t have a choice.

Abby: I just — I can’t help but see the similarities between this and when you decided that you wanted to share custody of dominic. Look, I do not regret the outcome. I don’t, but you were willing to take chance and me to court so you could have equal access to dominic.

Devon: Right. But we got through all that, though.

Abby: Yeah, we did. But it was because chance and I, we decided that it was best for all of us to raise dominic together. And I just — I hope that you don’t think that every disagreement is going to have the same outcome, that your opponent is just going to suddenly realize that you’re right.

Devon: No, I’m not. Of course I’m not going to think that. But, abby, one of the most valuable lessons I ever learned from neil was that when you find something that you believe in and it’s important to you, you defend it, and you don’t back down. And this is something that is very important to me.

Abby: But there’s a lot more at stake than just the company that you built with your dad.

Devon: What are you saying?

Abby: I’m asking you if you’re prepared for what this will probably do to your relationship with lily.

Phyllis: Listen, daniel, we need to seize the moment. That’s what we need to do. I mean, we need a company that sees omega sphere for the moneymaking endeavor that it is. We need to let them make your vision a reality. You know what? Maybe we should take it to newman media. You know, nate hastings is there right now, and I’ve heard great things about him. Or forget it. Why are we thinking so small? Let’s go international. Japan, philippines, korea. Also, let’s not forget about the gamers in new zealand —

Daniel: Yeah, mom, I love that you’re so committed, but I think we’re getting a little bit ahead of ourselves.

Phyllis: Well, I don’t think so. This is something we need to do.

Daniel: [ Sighs ] I think we need to do exactly what we’ve been doing. We move ahead under the assumption that we’re going to be with chancellor-winters.

Phyllis: Well, I mean, but you’re the one who brought up that it’s a dire situation.

Daniel: I’m just talking worst-case scenarios. Look, I hope it doesn’t come to the point where we’ve got to take the project someplace else.

Phyllis: Right, plan for the best, prepare for the worst. I get it. I get it. Honestly, we have to. We have to think out of the box, all right? It’s just common sense. We have to look into other companies.

Daniel: I have a contract with chancellor-winters, and I have faith that lily’s going to do everything she can to keep this project on track. Lily. Hey. You want to join us?

Daniel: What’s wrong?

Lily: No, I just — I-I had a meeting that didn’t go well, so…

Daniel: With devon? I’m sorry. I know it’s got to be stressful, and I really wish you weren’t dealing with all that.

Phyllis: Yeah, I’m sorry, too. Um, but all the issues that you’re having with your brother, does this have to do with the company? Um, because my son’s been working very, very hard at omega sphere and making it just amazing. I’d hate to think. Is it dead in the water at chancellor-winters? Daniel: My mother’s candor is an expression of her passion for the project.

Phyllis: And I know you have to make tough calls. I understand that.

Daniel: I think that — I think that we should give lily a chance to explain. Please.

Lily: Yeah. No. Listen, the truth is, I mean, everything is still kind of up in the air right now.

Phyllis: Oh, okay. Well, I hope it’s nothing serious.

Lily: No, no, no. No, no. Just — it’s growing pains.

Phyllis: Right.

Lily: So, you know, I really hope that I can rely on your patience and understanding as we work everything out.

Phyllis: Oh. Well, sure. I mean, but you just want daniel to sort of wait and wonder?

Lily: Well, we signed a contract, so I’m not really sure what you’re expecting.

Daniel: Look, I’m — I’m cool with it. I can use the extra time to refine my designs.

Lily: Yeah, no, good, good, ’cause I really want to see this project come to fruition, if I can.

Phyllis: Oh, if you can. Okay. That’s a big if. I mean, he’s worked very hard on this project.

Daniel: Mm, yeah, I don’t think that’s the kind of help I need right now.

Phyllis: Well, I-I think lily needs to understand what goes into exactly what you do and the whole world that you’ve built. Maybe she doesn’t completely get it, you know?

Lily: No, look, I get it. I get it. You know, I really wish I could tell you more, though.

Phyllis: Oh, okay, I understand. You know, corporate secrets and all, right? I’m just advocating for my son.

Lily: I know. I know.

Phyllis: Yeah. Well, great. I have to go. Talk to you later.

Daniel: Bye, mom.

Lily: [ Sighs ]

Daniel: [ Sighs ] Well, I, um — I think you know what I’m about to say.

Lily: No, it’s fine. You don’t have to apologize. She’s your mom, you know? Of course she’s going to worry about you. Makes me miss my own parents. They were always in my corner.

Daniel: You want something to drink? I know I could use one, definitely something stronger than this coffee.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, I could definitely probably use some bourbon right now after my meeting with devon.

Daniel: Negotiations go south?

Lily: There were no negotiations. He wants what he wants, easy as that. He absolutely rejected our offer to buy him out, and jill is not going to let them take back hamilton-winters without a fight. So things are about to get nasty.

Billy: Look, if your therapist thinks it’s a good idea, then — then I’m going to support you.

Chelsea: Really?

Billy: Yeah, of course. But, uh, you know, there’s — there’s a few things to consider.

Chelsea: Of course. Of course. I mean, we’d have to hire a mental health professional to consult with and make sure we, you know, shape the language in the right way.

Billy: Yes, that would be a must.

Chelsea: Do you think we would need to use pseudonyms?

Billy: I don’t know, but that’s one of the things to consider, right? I mean, off the top of my head, I think being anonymous would be the right call. If not, we’re going to have to answer a lot of questions from all the parents at walnut grove. And we got to think about the boys.

Chelsea: Of course. Of course. The last thing I want is for johnny and connor to suffer any kind of bullying or unwanted attention.

Billy: Yeah, their safety is my top priority.

Chelsea: The thing is, if we use an alias, it’s like we’re reinforcing the stigma around mental illness. I want to teach the boys that shame shouldn’t be a part of this equation, certainly not when someone’s in trouble. Stigma is what stops people from getting help. Makes them feel they need to hide things. I mean, at least that’s how I felt.

Billy: That’s a good point, valid point. In fact, we should probably talk to dr. Malone about that. What? What are you looking at me like that for?

Chelsea: Be honest. Don’t just say what you think I want you to say. Tell me the truth. Do you really think it’s okay if we do this?

Chelsea: Yeah, and we’d have to be very careful with what we say. You know, if we’re going to do this, I want to make sure we do it right.

Abby: Right, but when that doesn’t work out, you are more than welcome to spend any family holiday with me and dominic.

Devon: Do you really not think that lily’s going to get past this?

Abby: I don’t know. I mean, look at adam. He can’t get past any grievances that he has with his siblings.

Devon: Yeah, but, I mean, that’s — that’s adam. Lily’s not him. She’s a kind person, and she’s reasonable.

Abby: True. But what if she never forgives you for dismantling the merger? And what if you don’t win? Are you prepared for that?

Devon: How would i prepare for that? How do I prepare to lose everything that I’ve ever worked for in my life? I won’t do that.

Daniel: Look, I know that this can’t be easy for you. You know, going to war with a stranger is one thing, but when it’s your own brother…

Lily: Yeah, no, and he keeps talking about how he’s preserving our father’s legacy, when in reality, my dad would be horrified by this.

Daniel: You got a lot riding on this ipo. You got a ton of people counting on you to make the right decision… I don’t envy you one bit.

Lily: I’m really sorry that i have to keep you in limbo while we figure things out.

Daniel: I understand.

Lily: But thank you for being positive about all of this, ’cause I know you’re disappointed. And you have every right to be. I know how much you have riding on this.

Audra: Quite an impressive operation you have going on here.

Nate: And being coo is a big responsibility, as you’re about to find out.

Audra: Great, ’cause I’m ready to hit the ground running.

Nate: Good. We have several new programs in the pipeline that I’ll expect you to spearhead. I’ll need you to give input on the creative and fine tune some of the overall concepts. And I want to make this one thing very clear. Never hold back your thoughts. I encourage you to speak up and share your suggestions with me.

Audra: I’m glad to hear that because I am brimming with ideas.

Nate: What you said in your interview for the job really hit home. I’m determined not to treat you or any of my employees the way devon treated me. Yes, yes, I am the boss, but I want an environment of open collaboration.

Audra: What a coincidence, because that’s the kind of environment I excel in.

Nate: Great. Welcome to newman media.

Nikki: And, amazingly, the only thing stolen was a diamond necklace that your father gave me.

Victoria: A burglary at the family apartment in chicago? I mean, what? Well, thank goodness you and dad weren’t there when it happened. Do the police know who did it yet?

Nikki: Oh, they arrested somebody, but I’m convinced they have the wrong person.

Victoria: Well, how could you possibly know that?

Nikki: Because I think the real culprit is diane jenkins.

Diane: Are you as happy as i am right now?

Jack: How could I not be? Everything feels so right.

Diane: Yeah. It’s like everything that’s happened has just led us to this moment.

Diane: Yeah.

Jack: Now that we’re here, any regrets?

Diane: Well, yes.

Jack: Yes? You do have regrets?

Diane: I regret that what i did so long ago made it so hard for you to forgive me. And I — I regret that I wasn’t totally honest with you when I first came back. But the truth is, I, uh…

[ Sighs ] I hid so much of what I had done out of shame. Mm. But you know everything now. You know all my secrets. Somehow you’re still here. It’s — it’s an amazing gift, and I promise you, I will never, never betray you. Hm.

Kyle: Hey, victor’s gone now. Do you have a minute to talk?

Summer: Sure.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] He’s turning up the heat on his plan to oust adam from jabot.

Summer: I hope this time you flat out turned down his request for your help.

Kyle: Actually, I didn’T.

Sally: I just didn’t want to say anything until I was sure.

Nick: Are you sure?

Sally: I’m pregnant. Chloe says I’m in denial. And she’s not wrong. I mean, I’ve been on overload since I found out, and I’ve been feeling crummy on top of it. I just — I had to put everything on pause, which, honestly is exactly where i need to be right now. So can you please just be in denial with me, at least for now? I’m — I’m just not ready to deal with everything that comes next.

Nick: Just don’t stress, okay? We’re going to figure this out. It’s going to be fine.

Victoria: That is an odd coincidence.

Nikki: And then why would he suddenly decide to go all the way to chicago, break into our apartment, and steal one necklace from me? Nothing else was taken.

Victoria: You’re right. The whole thing is strange.

Nikki: I mean, how does he even know we have an apartment in chicago?

Victoria: You know, that raises another question. How did diane know that you kept your jewels there?

Nikki: Well, that’s another thing that makes this even more infuriating. There is no way she would’ve been able to pull this off without jack’s help.

[ Keyboard clacking ]

Traci: Well, hello, you two.

Jack: Well, you’re looking exceptionally happy this morning.

Traci: And you’re looking exceptionally happy, as well.

Diane: Traci, I-I didn’t know you were home.

Traci: Surprise.

[ Laughs ]

Summer: I can’t believe you’re letting my grandpa pull you into his machinations.

Kyle: No one is pulling me into anything.

Summer: We agreed to stay out of our mothers’ feud, and we should have the same policy for anything newman-related.

Kyle: I haven’t decided if I’m in or out yet.

Summer: I can’t believe that you’re even still considering it. I thought that once stark was busted, we would be done with all of the deceptions. But this morning, I had to hide the truth from my grandma about her stolen necklace. And then I had to lie to adam to cover for you. Which, by the way, he definitely didn’t buy that story that grandpa was here to help you for a valentine’s day surprise.

Kyle: I’m not surprised. He’s got a suspicious nature.

Summer: Can’t we just say enough already with all the lies and schemes and criminal activity?

Kyle: Victor hasn’t pitched anything criminal.

Summer: Not yet.

Victor: [ Sighs ] So… why don’t you talk to me?

Nick: There’s nothing to talk about.

Victor: Does this mood you’re in have anything to do with sally spectra?

Nick: [ Chuckles ] Why would you say that?

Victor: My suspicions. I’m not going to give you any advice regarding that relationship, but I’m going to warn you.

Nick: Dad, whatever it is, I just — I don’t want to hear it. I don’t want to hear any attacks on sally. I don’t want to hear any stories about her past.

Victor: It’s not about the past. About the future. Something is about to happen with your brother, adam, that could complicate issues for you if you stay in a relationship with that woman.

Nick: Alright, let’s hear it. Or scheming now? I could’ve waited to tell my doctor my heart

Nate: No, elena, you got it all wrong. I’m not trying to stake a claim in chancellor-winters again. And audra here no longer works for them.

Audra: That’s true. I work for nate now.

Elena: Wait, what?

Nate: I hadn’t had a chance to tell you yet. The whole thing came together rather quickly.

Elena: Oh. I’m sorry I jumped to the wrong conclusion.

Audra: No worries. I can see how you could easily misconstrue the situation.

Nate: Agreed. No apology necessary. But I am surprised to see you here. Is everything okay?

Elena: Yeah. I just stopped by to see if you were available for an early lunch.

Nate: Ah, I would love to, but andre and I just ordered takeout, and we were planning a working lunch here.

Audra: Nate, it’s fine. I have some research and reading I got to catch up on. Our salads will stay fresh in the break-room refrigerator.

Nate: Are you sure? It’s your first day, and i thought we can go over more details —

Audra: I won’t hear of it, nate, okay? We can pick up on this later. You should never turn down a meal with your partner.

Nate: I guess we’re going to lunch, then.

Victor: No scheme, son. I just have a sense that adam’s days at jabot are numbered.

Nick: You sense that? How exactly does that work?

Victor: Trust me. And when that happens and he leaves jabot, he has no one to turn to but his family. That’s where he belongs.

Nick: You really think adam is going to come back to work at newman?

Victor: Sooner than any of us realize. When that happens —

Nick: If it happens.

Victor: When that happens, son, I want you and adam to find common ground. I want you to get along. You understand? And this sally spectra woman is going to make that very difficult.

Nick: Can you just leave her alone, alright? She’s going through enough right now.

Victor: What does that mean?

Victoria: Oh, mom, I find it awfully hard to believe that jack would help diane rob you. I mean, why would he even consider doing something like that?

Nikki: It makes sense if you think of it as a carefully devised plan to get rid of stark. Now, what if they were trying to frame him? In which case jack and diane were using me in their little plot, too.

Victoria: Well, I can see that you’re upset, but did you think about asking jack about it?

Nikki: Yeah. He claimed that stark was trying to frame diane.

Victoria: And you’re not buying it?

Nikki: [ Scoffs ] They were acting so weird. It was clear something was up.

Victoria: Diane must have jack completely wrapped around her little finger. I mean, what more can we do but accept it?

Nikki: Oh, no, no. There’s a lot we can do.

Victoria: Mom, I know that you detest diane, but, I mean, maybe it’s time to just accept the fact that she is back in town for good.

Nikki: I will never do that.

Victoria: Do you remember when you were worried about stark being back in genoa city? Can you not just be happy that he’s behind bars again?

Nikki: No. I will only be happy when diane is in a cell of her own.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Mom, I hate seeing you so twisted up like this. You have to find a way to let it go.

Traci: So, can I pour anybody a cup of coffee?

Diane: Oh, no, thank you.

Jack: I’ll have a cup.

Traci: Okay. Actually, I probably don’t need any more caffeine this morning. I have been down here for hours, and I notice the two of you seem to be getting quite a late start.

Diane: Oh, well, we were just upstairs checking on harrison, but I guess the nanny already has him out. You know, it is a lovely, brisk day for the park.

Traci: Oh, really? How would you know? You haven’t been outside yet.

Diane: Well, I-I do have the weather on my phone.

Jack: We have nothing to hide. For the record, diane is going to be spending a lot more time around here.

Sharon: What can I get you?

Audra: Oh. You’re so polite. Even though I’m sure I’m the last person you want to see.

Sharon: Your history with noah is between the two of you. And, besides, he seems to have made peace with it.

Audra: You figure since I’m only in town temporarily, why not keep things cordial?

Sharon: I aim to make all of my customers feel welcome.

Audra: Would that change if I told you I was moving here permanently?

Elena: [ Sighs ] I really am sorry that I showed up to your job and immediately assumed the worst.

Nate: It’s okay. It’s a perfectly logical mistake. I can see how you could’ve gotten there.

Elena: Well, thank you for understanding. So how did all this come about? Why isn’t audra working on the ipo anymore?

Nate: Well, she and chancellor-winters parted ways. It made sense to bring someone with her experience on board. She even won over victoria, who is no easy sell.

Elena: I suppose so.

Nate: Audra showed up on her first day ready with a boatload of ideas. I am telling you, she’s already shining like a star.

Elena: Well, audra isn’t the only one who shined today.

Victor: So, uh…

[ Clears throat ] What exactly has you worried about sally spectra?

Nick: [ Sighs ] Look, she’s starting a new business, okay?

Victor: Okay.

Nick: And that is a necessity due to her unceremonious firing from newman media. And she doesn’t need any distractions from you. In fact, she and chloe are meeting with jill to see if they can put together a partnership with chancellor-winters. And just so you know, sally and I are getting a lot closer. So can you just get off her case, dad? She’s not hurting anyone.

Victor: Not just yet.

Nick: I’m serious. Leave her alone. I really hope you’re not trying to manipulate some scenario where you force adam’s hand. I know you’re trying to bring the family closer together, but, honestly, it’s going to have the opposite effect. But maybe that’s the only thing you know.

Kyle: I understand why you would have some reservations about me working with victor, but I am asking you to hear me out. You do not get to make the decisions for me.

Summer: I’m not trying to. But, kyle, this is my family. We both know how ugly things can get when grandpa and adam are at war.

Kyle: I do. But this time, I honestly believe victor has the best of intentions. Yeah, he wants adam to fail, but only so we can bring him back into the family fold.

Summer: You know I love my grandpa, but this is no way to heal a rift with your son. Why humiliate adam again? He’s had enough of that already.

Kyle: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I agree. It’s a little extreme. But look at it from jabot’s perspective. Adam is trouble. My dad never should’ve brought him on. So far, the guy’s work is hit or miss. He’s clearly not engaged or all that passionate about being here, and part of me wonders if he only took the job in the first place to get back at victor.

Summer: That wouldn’t surprise me.

Kyle: I want him gone before he can cause damage to our company. How can you possibly disagree with me?

Summer: Look, I-I’ll admit there’s no real place for adam at jabot. I just don’t think it means that you need to be taking such big risks.

Kyle: Don’t worry about that. I’ve taken care of all the risks.

Nikki: I’m tired about talking about diane. Let’s talk about a happier subject. How are katie and johnny?

Victoria: Oh. Well. Oh, you should see katie in her ballet class. She looks so cute in her little tights and her tutu. She’s just thriving. You know, she is so talented. I hope you can make her recital.

Nikki: Of course. I wouldn’t miss it.

Victoria: Good. But, uh, last night, thanks to johnny and billy, I, um — I had to endure pizza night at chelsea’S.

Nikki: Oh. How did that go?

Victoria: I don’t know. I mean, billy seems pretty at home there, and I’m pleased that johnny and connor are getting along, of course. But I just have this strange feeling in the pit of my stomach that this new family dynamic is not going to end well.

Nikki: I’m sorry you have to deal with all that.

[ Door opens ]

Nick: Hey, mom, vick.

Nikki: Hey.

Victoria: Hi. How are you doing?

Nick: I’m good.

Nikki: Well, I would love to chat, but I have a meeting. Thank you, darling. Talk to you later. [ Smooches ]

Nick: Love you, mom.

Nikki: Bye-bye.

[ Door closes ]

Victoria: I think that mom was too preoccupied to notice that your answer was not convincing. Clearly, you’re conflicted about something.

Nick: Why does everyone keep saying that to me?

Victoria: Because it must be true. What’s going on?

Nate: I’m getting the feeling that this isn’t just your everyday lunch invitation. You have something to share, don’t you?

Elena: You remember that patient I was telling you about?

Nate: You mean the one nobody expected to make it?

Elena: Yep, that’s the one. Really sweet man. Not to toot my own horn, but I performed his surgery this morning, and he made it through with flying colors.

Nate: What? Congratulations, elena. You saved that man’s life. I am so proud of you. I bet the rest of the staff was wowed, as well.

Elena: Yeah, yeah. I received some really high praises. But, um… I think the thing that meant the most to me was seeing the look on his family’s face when I told them that he was going to make it.

Nate: I remember that feeling. It’s like being on top of the world. I am so thrilled for you.

[ Chuckles ] And this calls for a celebration, okay? Not just this lunch. So I am going to put something together for us tonight. Something special. Champagne. The works.

Elena: Okay. I’m looking forward to it.

Summer: How could you have possibly taken care of all the risks? I thought you hadn’t agreed to my grandpa’s little plot yet.

Kyle: I haven’T. I just laid down some ground rules in case I do decide to work with him. I told him that, if I were to come on board, there’d be certain conditions that would have to be met.

Summer: Which are?

Kyle: “A,” my involvement would have to be minimal, “b,” whatever move victor makes can only affect adam, not jabot, and “c,” dad can never find out I had any involvement.

Summer: Okay, none of those caveats are even remotely reassuring to me. Just the fact that you need to take so many precautions should tell you everything you need to know.

Kyle: I have confidence victor will keep his word.

Summer: [ Scoffs ] Can’t you see how this can blow up in your face? Sure, my grandpa might honor your requests, but if adam figures out that he’s been set up, jack is the first person that he’s going to tell.

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Diane: Jack, we don’t need to go on boring traci about us. I’m sure you have better things to do.

Traci: Nope. In fact, I find the whole thing absolutely fascinating. I would love to hear all about it. That is, unless the two of you do want to talk about it.

Jack: Oh, I’m more than happy to talk about it. Have a seat. Diane and I are now romantically involved. It has been a very natural and very welcome progression, and I don’t intend to keep it a secret. I think our family has had quite enough of those lately.

Traci: Well, congratulations.

Jack: Thank you.

Traci: [ Chuckles ] And there’s another big change that I’ve noticed around here this morning. The security detail seems to be missing. So am I to assume that means we’re not going to have to worry about that dangerous secret called stark?

Jack: You would be correct about that. We are safely out of his life, and he’s out of ours. So I like the way things have landed. Our troubles are few.

Traci: There that is, that sparkle in your eye that I’ve been missing so much.

Diane: Ah, you see a sparkle?

Traci: I do see a sparkle, and I’d see it on my brother from a mile away. Ah, please forgive me if, um, I teased you and made you feel uncomfortable.

Jack: No, you should feel good about this. That level of ribbing from traci is usually reserved for close family.

Traci: [ Chuckles ] Seriously, both of you, I wish you all the best, and I hope that your announcement is met with the proper amount of support that it deserves. Actually, I think it’s probably a really good thing that ashley is out of the country right now because you should consider having someone tell our sister so that she can blow up on the streets of paris and get it all out of her system before she comes back home again.

Jack: I will definitely take that under advisement.

Traci: [ Chuckles ] Good. Now I have a scheduled phone meeting with my editor, so you two will have to excuse me, but I’m sure that I will see you both later.

Jack: Traci.

Traci: Mm-hmm?

Jack: Thank you.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Jack: W-what? Wait, what’s wrong?

Diane: You know, we didn’t talk about telling people about us. I’m not so sure it’s a good idea.

Sharon: So, you’ve decided to stay in genoa city?

Audra: There’s no need to worry. It’s a good thing.

Sharon: Really?

Audra: Yeah, I just got a new position. As of today, I’m working for noah’s dad’s company. I never would’ve imagined this back in london. But it’s small world, hm?

Sharon: You’re working for newman? In what capacity?

Audra: Nate hastings hired me to work at newman media as his coo.

Sharon: Oh. Wow, that’s a pretty big leap from a temporary position at chancellor-winters.

Audra: It is. But I managed to impress the hell out of victoria when I interviewed. Although I just started, so far, so good.

Sharon: Then congratulations are in order, I guess.

Audra: Thank you. And for the record, noah has nothing to worry about. I’m very happy with the new direction my life is taking and all the new people I’m meeting. Believe me, the last thing I want to do is move backward.

Sharon: I’m sure that noah will appreciate you giving him a lot of space.

Audra: Well, I got to get back to the office and make the newmans even richer, if that’s possible. Take care.

Jack: Hey, hey, why are you saying that? Why are you hesitant about going public about us?

Diane: I’m just not sure it’s the right thing to do.

Jack: Is this about ashley?

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Jack: That’s not a problem because she doesn’t have a vote.

Diane: Yes, and things couldn’t be any worse with ashley than they already are.

Jack: So this is about kyle?

Diane: Yes. He warned me a while ago not to flirt with you, and I think we can safely say that more than flirting has gone on.

Jack: Yeah, I would agree. When people see how happy we are, they will be happy for us.

Diane: I wish I could be as optimistic as you are about how everyone will react to the two of us getting back together.

Jack: Trust me, we will win everyone over that matters. The rest don’t count. We can be very persuasive, you and I.

Diane: You know, jack, I’m not worried about me. You know that I can handle whatever the world dishes out, and, well — and besides, practically everyone despises me already anyway. No, but you are loved and respected in this town. You’re the one with the most at stake.

Summer: I just hate the idea of you risking unnecessary conflict with your dad over adam, of all people. I mean, can you just imagine how jack would react if he found out that you were conspiring with my grandpa behind his back?

Kyle: I honestly believe I am protecting my dad — from adam and all the potential trouble he could cause him and jabot down the line.

Summer: Are you trying to prove something to jack after he left you out of the scheme to take down stark?

Kyle: No, of course not. This is about protecting jabot.

Summer: You know adam. Why don’t you just let him fail all on his own, as he inevitably will?

Kyle: Okay, please, summer. I just need you to understand this will be worth it. There’s more to this that I haven’t told you yet, a payoff beyond just removing adam from the equation.

Nick: I don’t want to get into it, vick.

Victoria: Oh, come on. You should know by now that you can talk to me about anything.

Nick: [ Sighs ] I just had a very disturbing conversation with our father.

Victoria: I’m almost afraid to ask what’s on dad’s agenda. Did you two get into it about sally again?

Nick: Oh, sally is still very much on his agenda, but the main event now seems to be our brother.

Victoria: Why does our father keep hitting his head against a brick wall when it comes to this guy? Adam is never going to be anything but trouble.

Nick: Dad doesn’t see it like that. I have a suspicion that dad has some plan in the works to bring adam home, both to the company and the family. But you and I know that is only going to spell disaster.

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

Audra: Nate.

Nate: Audra, come in.

Audra: I am glad I caught you. So I-I hope I didn’t jump the gun, but I was putting out feelers for a showcast idea and ended up setting a meeting.

Nate: With who?

Audra: This really important contact of mine in milwaukee who can help us with the snap of her fingers. But don’t worry. I didn’t make any guarantees or promises. I made sure to emphasize that everything is exploratory at this point. So what do you think?

Nate: I think I’m surprised you were able to move so fast. But I am on board with it and eager to hear how this could play out.

Audra: Okay, good, good. But here’s the thing. She’s only in milwaukee for one night before heading to asia. So tonight would be our best bet to pick her brain and, you know, possibly land her if we decide we want her to work with us. Are you free?

Nate: Sure. I’m in.

Audra: Great. I will go finalize things now.

Nate: [ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ]

Elena: Hey, you.

Nate: Hey. Listen, I am so, so sorry, but i have to postpone our plans for tonight.

Elena: Oh, no. What happened?

Nate: Something came up here at work tonight, and I have to deal with it. But, listen, I promise to make it up to you. Rain check?

Elena: Yeah. I understand.

Jack: You’re right. I have a lot at stake. I’m happy.

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: For the first time in I can’t tell you how long, I have such a positive view of the future, and I’ll tell you something else.

Diane: What?

Jack: I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure I stay this happy. You really think I care about my reputation? I don’t care what other people think, certainly not about my personal life. Yes, kyle will have some concerns. He’ll need some time to work through this, maybe. But I intend to make it very clear to anyone and everyone that I want to move forward with this relationship. I hope you feel the same way.

Diane: Wow. That’s a much stronger stance than I expected.

Jack: I thought we were on the same page here. Upstairs, it certainly seemed that way.

Diane: Mm.

[ Sighs ]

Summer: What additional payoff would there be for booting adam out of jabot?

Kyle: Remember those textile factories you were talking about?

Summer: The ones that newman took over when they acquired chelsea by jabot way back?

Kyle: I told victor that, in exchange for my help, I wanted to take back control of them. Victor agreed. Think of the possibilities. The resources from them could make marchetti unstoppable.

Victoria: I can’t imagine why our father would want adam back here. I mean, welcoming him into the family is one thing, but bringing him back to newman?

Nick: I feel the same way.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Everything has been going so well. It’s all falling into place with the leadership team that I’ve hand-picked, and he wants to just come and disrupt all of that again?

Nick: Vick, it doesn’t matter how many times he says you’re in charge. He cannot stay away from this company.

Victoria: Exactly what is he going to do to get his way this time?

Nick: I don’t know. He said he sensed there was going to be some trouble for adam at jabot. That’s all I could get out of him.

Victoria: Do you have any idea what he meant?

Nick: No, but I recognized that look in his eye. Dad’s up to no good, and he’s enjoying every second of it.

Jill: Well, as I live and breathe, victor newman. Please don’t tell me someone died.

Victor: Nice to see you. No one has died. Everyone is alive and well.

Jill: So what did I do to deserve this call?

Victor: Well, I want to talk to you about a business meeting you’re about to have.

Jill: [ Chuckles ] I suppose I shouldn’t really be surprised that you know my private schedule, mm?

Victor: Well, now, the meeting is with sally spectra, and there’s something you need to know.

Diane: And by bringing Jeremy the necklace, I proved my loyalty, as well as my desire to resume a life of crime with him — or so he believed.

Summer: How can you be so sure of what he was thinking? I mean, for all you knew, he was setting you up.

Diane: Well, because — how can I put this delicately? — Um, Jeremy also thought that we were going to reconnect physically, seal the deal. But I wasn’t about to let that happen.

Kyle: Yeah, I would sure as hell hope not.

Diane: No, but it gave me a chance to get him out of the room to take a shower. And while he was in the bathroom, I planted the rest of the evidence that Jack had given me, and then I got out of there quickly.

Jack: So, when chance showed up to execute the search warrant, Diane was long gone, he found the necklace, he found the other things, and he was arrested.

Diane: Yes, which Jack and I arrived in time to see and enjoyed immensely.

Jack: And he turned them over to the very capable hands of the Chicago Police Department, and they will take it from there.

Diane: [ Sighs ] We are finally rid of that horrible man. You and Harrison — you have nothing to fear. We’re safe. We can go back to our lives as normal.

Kyle: I know you’re expecting a pat on the back, but I’m still not happy about how all this went down.

Jack: Kyle, I’ve explained to you —

Kyle: No, you changed the plan at the last second, adding a ton of risk.

Jack: The risk of any complications at this point are very slim.

Kyle: You hope.

Diane: Well, now that Jeremy has violated his parole and committed this new crime, he will go back to prison.

Summer: Can you guarantee that? I mean, do we even know how good his lawyer is? What if he has a solid alibi for the time of the burglary?

Jack: It was still worth the risk. Look, I had to do this. Diane was continuing this charade with Stark and getting in more and more danger. Look, the only way this would work is if we moved fast. And we managed to protect the entire family.

Summer: [ Sighs ] You also broke more laws and you lied to the police. I’m sorry, but are we really supposed to be happy about that?

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Sharon: Is everything okay?

Chance: Yeah. Yeah. I’m just thinking about a case. Nikki and Victor’s apartment in Chicago was broken into.

Sharon: [ Gasps ] What?

Chance: Yeah.

Sharon: Is everyone okay?

Chance: Yeah. No one was there at the time. A necklace was taken, though.

Sharon: Well, if this happened out of the state, why were you involved?

Chance: Well, the perp is a man named Jeremy Stark. He’s a paroled ex-con, and he has connections to certain people here in Genoa City, most notably Diane Jenkins.

Sharon: [ Gasps ] You know, there’s been a lot of speculation about what she was doing those years in California.

Chance: Well, because Stark was staying here, Chicago PD reached out for assistance. He’s considered a flight risk, so they wanted him picked up ASAP. So I went to the hotel, searched his room, arrested him, and took him back to Chicago.

Sharon: And when did this happen?

Chance: Last night.

Sharon: Did he have the necklace?

Chance: Yep. Along with other evidence in the room that linked him to the crime.

Sharon: Sounds pretty cut and dried.

Chance: Doesn’t it, though?

Sharon: Except something’s not sitting right with you.

Chance: No, it’s not.

[ Elevator doors open and close ]

Victor: Hey, son. I’m looking for Kyle.

Adam: Why?

Victor: What do you mean, why? To finish the discussion about Summer and Harrison.

Adam: No, you’re not.

Victor: What do you mean, I’m not?

Adam: After I saw you at Society with your heads together, you already admitted that I was the topic du jour.

Victor: You were mentioned in passing, son.

Adam: You know, when we were talking, you actually said you were interested in how I’m doing here at Jabot. So, why don’t you level with me for once and just tell me what is really going on?

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Chloe: Good morning!

Sally: Mnh, no, it isn’t.

Chloe: Wow. This pregnancy is really laying you out today.

Sally: Oh, my god. Morning sickness is no joke. Does everyone feels this bad?

Chloe: I did. Every time. And I think with Bella, it was worse. But I got through it, and so will you, which is why I brought some tried-and-true remedies that worked for me when I was pregnant. And hopefully they’ll get you back on your feet in time for this meeting with Jill so you look a little less…green.

Sally: Oh, my god, I cannot believe I feel this rotten, on today of all days. We’ve been working so hard on this pitch.

Chloe: You are tough. You can do this. I know you can.

[ Knock on door ]

Nick: Hey, Sally, it’s me!

Sally: [ Sighing ]

Sharon: I know that Diane’s been trying really hard to make a fresh start, so to have this guy show up from her past and threaten all that…

Chance: Yeah, Stark’s a bad guy. There’s no question there. I mean, the guy just got paroled after serving 6 years of a 10-year sentence for large-scale money laundering. He’s never been charged with burglary, though. There we are.

Sharon: So, it’s his change in M.O. that’s giving you pause?

Chance: I mean, the pieces fit. You know, on paper, this is a solid arrest, and everybody in Chicago seems satisfied.

Sharon: But you don’t.

Chance: I don’t like how easily all this fell into place. I don’t like that he only took one piece of jewelry, either.

Sharon: You know, you’re right. If you’re gonna go to the trouble, why not haul off with everything you can carry?

Chance: Exactly. And also, why Nikki Newman, hmm? What’s the connection there?

Sharon: She’s wealthy and high-profile. Presumably, there’d be a lot there worth stealing.

Chance: On the way to Chicago, Stark was ranting the whole time about Diane and Jack Abbott. He said they framed him for something he didn’t do to run him out of town. Now, normally, I wouldn’t pay any attention to this, right? Every crook’s innocent. Everyone’s being framed. Everyone has an excuse. But there was something in this guy’s voice. It was like a — a certain bitterness. I don’t know. It just keeps eating away at me. On top of which, this whole thing feels contrived. It reminds me of when I was dealing with the Newmans after Locke’s death. And everyone has an explanation for everything, all neat and pat.

Sharon: I can understand why you’re concerned. It does all sound a bit convenient.

Jack: Hey, let’s be honest here. Jeremy Stark was a genuine threat to all of us. We had to eradicate him from our lives as quickly as possible.

Kyle: Assuming the charges stick. What if he posts bail and comes after Mom in retaliation?

[ Doorbell rings ]

Jack: Wait. This is Nikki. I called her last night, asking her to talk with me. Please let me handle this.

Diane: Of course.

[ Door opens ]

Jack: Hi, Nikki. Come on in.

Nikki: Hi. I got your voicemail, but I thought I would just come on by.

Summer: Hi.

Nikki: What’s going on?

Jack: I assume you’ve been apprized of what happened in Chicago?

Nikki: Of course. Our housekeeper notified us as soon as she realized that my jewelry safe had been opened.

Jack: Then I assume you also know that the man who broke into your apartment was Jeremy Stark.

Nikki: No, I did not know that. Why on earth would he do that?

Jack: I assume he planned to use the necklace to set Diane up.

Diane: Since he’d somehow gotten it in his head that I had worked with the authorities to turn him in six years ago.

Nikki: Well, I knew the Chicago police were following a lead, something about reading glasses being left behind. I did not know that it was tied to Stark. Or you, Diane.

Summer: You know what? Um, we need to get to work.

Kyle: Mm-hmm.

Nikki: Bye-bye.

Kyle: See you, Nikki.

Nikki: Okay.

[ Door closes ]

Nikki: How is it you know so much about this?

Jack: Diane and I went to speak with Stark just as chance was taking him into custody.

Nikki: Huh. That’s interesting timing. I mean, I have to say, I am very curious why a convicted felon would go all the way to Chicago to steal from me. Do the police have any theories about that? Because I certainly do.

[ Knock on door ]

Chloe: Nick. How you doing?

Nick: I’m good. How are you?

Chloe: Just peachy. Um, what can I do for you this fine, beautiful morning?

Nick: Well, I know you have your big pitch coming up, so I just wanted to come by and wish you both luck.

[ Door closes ]

Nick: Hi.

Sally: Hey.

Nick: Uh, please don’t take offense to this, but you’re not looking your best.

Sally: [ Sighs ] None taken.

Nick: Is it your stomach bug again?

Chloe: Yeah, you know, that norovirus is going around. It’s a real killer. Ugh, there have just been a few kids in Miles’ class who have had it two or three times already.

Nick: Yeah, that’s what, uh, Christian’s teacher said, too.

Sally: Yeah, it’s probably just all the, um, junk food and late nights, you know, getting ready for the meeting.

Chloe: Yeah, but I brought her a bunch of home remedies that should perk her right up. So, um, I think we got it covered. But it was very sweet of you to come by.

Nick: What are your symptoms?

Sally: You know, I — I really don’t mean to be rude, but, um, would the two of you mind taking off for a little bit? I really have to get ready.

Chloe: Yeah. So, uh, just pop an antihistamine and two of those ginger chews I gave you. And don’t worry about today. I’ve got everything dialed in for our pitch, and I will make sure to hit all of our selling points. You just need to get through this for just a very short time, okay?

Sally: Yeah. I’m on it.

Chloe: Okay. Um, let’s, uh, give the girl some space, yeah? Nick, you coming?

Nick: Yeah, you, uh — you go ahead. I need to talk to Sally for a minute.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Nick: Is there more to this bug than you’re telling me?

Sharon: I’m sure you handled that arrest by the book.

Chance: Oh, I absolutely did. But is that enough? I mean, what do I do now? Am I supposed to walk away and ignore my doubts, trust that the legal system’s gonna do its job? I mean, is Stark gonna get a fair trial with an adequate defense in front of an impartial judge? I don’t know. And the fact that I’m even asking these questions is making me sick, Sharon. It makes me have a lot less respect for myself and my job.

Sharon: Hmm. Well, I’m sorry.

Chance: It’s bringing up all these things again, how I put this job above everything else at such a huge personal cost. You know, and it’s ’cause I believe so much in what I’m doing. At least, I used to.

Sharon: Well, I hate to hear you talk like this.

Chance: I hate it, too. But am I wrong?

Sharon: You know, I’ve seen a lot of rules bent and laws broken by people who I love and respect. And sometimes it was done for my own benefit. And I’m no saint. But you’ve worked with the legal system and government bureaucracies for a very long time. You know that compromises are made and that things are not always black and white, as much as you would like them to be. That’s the reality that you’ve had to internalize so that you can carry on doing your job, so you can carry on doing what you know is right. That’s the only thing you can control. The rest of it is out of your hands.

Chance: That’s true.

Sharon: You know, people change over the years. I’m not the same person I was 20 years ago. You know, maybe you can no longer stuff down things that disturb you the way that you once were able to. And like you were saying the other day, maybe you’re in a situation that you no longer want to be in. Only you can determine that.

Chance: [ Sighs ]

Sharon: If you were to consider changing things up, what do you suppose you would do?

Chance: What, as in a job? Oh… no idea. My whole life has been public service — soldier, federal agent, detective. Never been outside that arena. Not sure what it would look like.

Sharon: Well, maybe I could help you with that.

Jack: The good news is Stark was arrested, and he had your necklace on him at the time.

Nikki: How very lucky for you.

Jack: Unfortunately, that necklace is now evidence, and I doubt the police are gonna be giving it back to you till after a trial, uh, presuming there is one.

Nikki: Jack, I don’t care about the necklace. I’m sure the authorities will keep it safe. I’m just relieved that that horrible man is off the streets.

Jack: Oh, believe me, Jeremy Stark’s arrival in this town and the threat he posed were catastrophic. This could have been a lot worse than this.

Diane: Isn’t it ironic that your misfortune turned out to save me? Imagine that.

Victor: I’m here to talk to Kyle about Harrison, alright? He’s part of the next generation of Newmans.

Adam: Mm-hmm. I have no doubt that you’re already planning the kid’s future. Are you hoping he’ll stick to the program better than I did?

Victor: For your information, he is being given the same opportunities that you were.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] So, he’ll succeed where I failed. Is that it?

Victor: Son, why does everything have to be an argument between us?

Adam: Look, I know that you hate that I am here at Jabot…

Victor: Uh-huh.

Adam: …Working for Jack.

Victor: Right.

Adam: And Kyle feels the same way. He would love it more than anything if I wasn’t here. I know you also believe Jack only gave me this job to stick it to you.

Victor: You’re correct about all the above. But I’ve often told you — and don’t ever forget it — that you are a very talented businessman.

Adam: And yet here you are. You’re gathering intelligence. Are you hoping to hear that I’m crashing and burning?

Victor: Son, what the hell are you doing here selling lipstick and makeup, for heaven’s sake? What’s the matter with you?

Adam: What are you trying to do? Are you trying to strong-arm Victoria into giving me some rinky-dink position so I can be under your thumb at Newman? It’s not gonna happen, okay?

Victor: Hi, sweetheart.

Summer: Grandpa, hi.

Victor: Hello, Kyle.

Kyle: Good to see you, sir.

Victor: Kyle, before you start your day, would you give me a minute?

Sally: There’s a lot riding on this pitch. I’ve just been going really hard to get everything prepared.

Nick: I’ve seen you deal with pressure before. Seems like a lot more than just nerves. And last night, you didn’t want to have a drink with me.

Sally: Well, I mean, I already explained that. I just wanted to have a clear head this morning.

Nick: Yeah, but, uh, looking at you now…

Sally: Yeah, well, I kind of wish you wouldn’t ’cause I know I look terrible.

Nick: Well, I like looking at you. Sally, I’ve been through this a few times. Is there a chance this is morning sickness?

Sally: My stomach — it just won’t quit. And then it does and I get cocky and I think I’m fine and then it just happens all over again and I just… I’m just really tired. I just didn’t want to say anything until I was sure.

Nick: Are you sure?

Sally: I’m pregnant.

Sharon: I’m sure there are all kinds of fields that you could explore. I mean, for instance, take all those quick, precision moves that you learned, you know, in the military. Just give them a little tweak, and soon you could be a — a dance instructor.

Chance: [ Laughs ]

Sharon: No, really!

Chance: Nice. That was nice. Good job.

Sharon: Or you know how you can drop from the ceiling on a wire? Cirque du Soleil would hire you in a heartbeat. And I can just see it now. You’d be juggling a ping-pong ball and a sledgehammer and a chainsaw.

Chance: Wow. Hmm. Would I have to wear sequins?

Sharon: Well, yeah. I mean, otherwise no one in the back would be able to see you.

Chance: No, that’s where I draw the line. I can’t do it. I can’t do it.

Sharon: That’s where you draw the line?

Chance: Yeah, no sequins for me. [ Sighs ] Thank you.

Sharon: For what?

Chance: Making me laugh, distracting me. You are remarkably good at getting me out of my head.

Sharon: Well, I’m glad that you feel comfortable enough being silly with me.

Chance: Mm, it’s easy. It feels natural.

[ Cellphone pings ]

Chance: Sorry. It’s Chicago PD. It’s about Stark’s arrest. I need to follow up on this. I, um… I wish I didn’t have to leave, though.

Sharon: Well, go. Take care of business. I’ll be here thinking about all the new career paths you can consider.

Chance: I cannot wait to hear what you come up with. See you.

Adam: How sad is this. Letting my father pull your strings. Oh, and making my life more difficult, just maybe take me down a peg or two.

Kyle: I have no idea what you’re talking about.

Victor: Kyle, if you don’t mind, I’m gonna wait for you inside.

Adam: Well, you must be proud. Husband does whatever Victor says.

Summer: [ Chuckles ] Sorry to deflate that massive ego of yours, but if you must know, Kyle is making Valentine’s Day plans and he asked grandpa for a favor. So, thanks for ruining the mood.

Kyle: I hope you’re satisfied.

Adam: Oh, poor you, Summer, you being dragged into the family machinations yet again.

[ Door closes ]

Victor: So, why have you not returned my calls?

Nikki: What puzzles me is how Stark got into our apartment so easily. I mean, there were no signs of a break-in. It was as if he knew the code to the alarm. And Victor and I haven’t changed that alarm in years. In fact, now that I think about it, it’s the same as when you and I spent time there.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Diane: Oh, sounds like we have more company.

Jack: Excuse me. Chance. Uh, I assume you’re here on official business?

Chance: I am.

Jack: Well, please come on in.

Nikki: Good morning, Chance.

Chance: Nikki.

Nikki: I’m glad I get to thank you in person for your work on my behalf last night.

Chance: I’m just doing my job.

Nikki: And just so you know, Victor and I are definitely going to be changing our security system. We’ll be upgrading it. I was just telling Jack that we haven’t been very diligent in changing the codes. But I am very curious as to how Stark was able to figure it out.

Chance: That is a very valid question.

Sally: I was gonna tell you. Obviously. I just… I didn’t want to say anything yet.

Nick: I mean, that’s some pretty big news. How do you feel about it?

Sally: Stunned, mostly. I mean, really, I’m just trying to wrap my head around it, like, being pregnant and expecting a baby. I’m just wondering how it all happened. I mean, obviously, I — I know how, but…

Nick: [ Chuckles ] [ Sighs ] I’m still not sure why you waited. I mean, why didn’t you tell me about this before?

Summer: I see your paranoia is working overtime.

Adam: [ Scoffs ] It’s a very nice cover story. Phyllis taught you well. But I happen to know what’s going behind those closed doors has nothing to do with Valentine’s Day or any kind of romantic surprise that Kyle’s cooking up for you. See, dear old Dad — he wants to humiliate me, so he’s capitalizing on Kyle’s animosity for me.

Summer: Oh, yeah? How exactly is he doing that?

Adam: By making it seem like they both want the same thing, by working together to give me the heave-ho, when in reality, Victor is manipulating Kyle. He’s an expert at it.

Kyle: I apologize for not getting back to you. My mother’s been going through some serious issues the past couple days, so I’ve been focused on that.

Victor: Uh-huh. I bet that has something to do with that fellow Stark, right? Now, Kyle, when you became aware of the connection between your mother and Stark, that should have rung some alarm bells, right? You should have severed all ties with your mother. But I guess that’s never easy when it comes to family, is it?

Nikki: Do you have any theories on how Stark accessed the apartment? You know, did you find any fancy electronic gadget that he could have used to bypass the alarm?

Chance: No, I didn’t. I still can’t explain it. Mr. Stark is still very loudly proclaiming his innocence.

Jack: Oh, pl– he is anything but innocent. He is a convicted criminal that can’t be trusted.

Chance: You mean unlike the upstanding citizens of Genoa City who always play by the rules?

Nikki: Well, I need to be going.

Jack: I’ll walk you out.

Chance: I’ll keep you updated about your necklace.

Nikki: Thank you.

[ Door creaks, closes ]

Chance: I wanted to come by here and tell you two that Jeremy Stark was arraigned this morning in Chicago. Now, given his previous conviction and his parole status, the fact another crime violates the terms of his release, and that he’s considered a strong flight risk, the judge has denied bail.

Diane: Oh, thank god.

Chance: Yeah, Stark’s a menacing guy, been involved in very high-stakes criminal activity. I mean, the guy’s no amateur. Having been granted parole, he sure has a hell of a lot to lose. And that is why him breaking into an apartment, stealing a necklace, and being so careless about it just doesn’t make sense to me. I mean, the guy left his reading glasses behind while committing grand larceny. Who does that?

Jack: I don’t begin to know how his mind works.

Chance: Is there anything else that you need to tell me about this incident?

Jack: Well, I’m sorry that you feel like things aren’t as they should be, but I don’t know how you think Diane or I could shed any more light on the situation.

Chance: So, you’re saying you can’t?

Jack: No, I’m saying he repeatedly threatened her since he got to Genoa City. Thank god she had the courage to stand up to him. She wouldn’t play his game, and I’m sure that infuriated him.

Chance: It is my job as law enforcement to handle men like Stark, not people who think their wealth and their position give them carte blanche to maneuver any situation to their benefit.

Jack: Obviously, the Chicago police and the arraigning judge found everything aboveboard and are proceeding accordingly.

Chance: Yeah, Jack, that is how it looks. I’ll see myself out. Thank you for your time.

[ Door opens ]

[ Door closes ]

[ Both sigh ]

Victor: Kyle, I understand your conflict, okay?

Kyle: Do you?

Victor: Well, of course. Diane is your mother, no matter what she has done, as Adam, in spite of all of his flaws, is still my son and always will be. I understand that.

Kyle: If you truly get it, then why would you even suggest I cut ties with my mother?

Victor: Have you ever thought for a moment how your life would be if your mother had not returned?

Kyle: Is this what you came here to talk about? Or should we focus on Adam? Because I assume that’s why you’ve been trying to get a hold of me.

Victor: Adam does not belong here. His place is with his family, with the Newmans.

Kyle: What about wanting to teach him a lesson? You know, that’s kind of how you were talking before, but maybe you’re a little conflicted yourself. Like you said, none of this is simple.

Victor: You must hate the idea that Adam is working alongside your dad, running this company.

Kyle: I don’t technically report to him. Neither does Summer. And he has no authority over Marchetti, so we don’t really cross paths.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Kyle: It’s true he wasn’t my first choice when my dad was looking to replace me as Co-CEO.

Victor: [ Chuckles ] That must be the understatement of the year.

Kyle: [ Laughs ]

Victor: Huh?

Kyle: You’re right.

Victor: Right.

Kyle: Adam may be competent at his job, and he’s taken a lot of pressure off my dad, but I don’t trust him. And I never will. We don’t get along. I think he’s arrogant and disrespectful.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Kyle: And I don’t appreciate the constant drama that swirls around him. It’s negative energy none of us need.

Victor: I can only imagine. Anyway, I appreciate your candor.

Kyle: So, for argument’s sake, what are we talking about? How do you propose we get Adam to leave Jabot and go back to Newman? Because from where I stand, that’s a tall order.

Sally: I didn’t tell you I was pregnant before now because I’ve just been completely overwhelmed. I already know what people think about me, and this is just confirmation.

Nick: Who cares, Sally? It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. This is between you and me. And I think you’re just amazing.

Sally: [ Sighs ] I just — I don’t want you to feel like you have to say that.

Nick: I wouldn’t do that.

Sally: I already told you things about my past, how I tried to manipulate a guy back in Los Angeles into staying in a relationship with me. So, I mean, how could you not feel like I’m trying to manipulate you?

Nick: I promise you I do not think that.

Sally: We’re supposed to be taking things slow. This isn’t slow. I mean, this is not how this was supposed to go. I like you so much. And I just — I just wanted things to be easy and sweet and sexy just a little longer. Because how could this not change everything?

Diane: Is this real? Is — is Jeremy gone?

Jack: For good this time.

Diane: This whole thing has been such an ordeal, and — and for it to finally be over…

[ Breathes deeply ]

Jack: How’s it feel?

Diane: Overwhelming. But in a good way, like I — I feel — I feel free, like I — like I have a future again. And this is all thanks to you. I mean, none of this would have been happening without your help. And — and then those — those kind words you said about me to chance today. You just — you made me — you made me sound so strong.

Jack: That is how I see you. Strong. Formidable. You’re amazing.

Diane: [ Laughs ]

Jack: I know you were afraid at times, but you managed to overcome that. You didn’t need anyone to save you from this situation. You needed backup. You needed support.

Diane: [ Sighs heavily ]

Sally: Chloe says I’m in denial. And she’s not wrong. I mean, I’ve been on overload since I found out, and I’ve been feeling crummy on top of it. I just — I had to put everything on pause, which, honestly, is exactly where I need to be right now. So, can you please just be in denial with me, at least for now? I’m — I’m just not ready to deal with everything that comes next.

Nick: Just don’t stress, okay? We’re gonna figure this out. It’s gonna be fine.

Adam: Look, even if Kyle sees it coming, he won’t be able to Victor has a way of corrupting even the most upstanding people.

Summer: For the record, Adam, there’s no need for Kyle to work with Grandpa to push you out the door because history has proven that you can ruin things all on your own, with no help from anyone.

Victor: All I want is Adam to realize is that he made a mistake. He doesn’t belong here.

Kyle: And to get that to happen…

Victor: Make sure that he takes a fall — a big fall, okay? Then I would present him with an opportunity to pick himself up, make things right. It would be a good thing for Adam, a good thing for Jabot. But what I do need is your assistance. I need you to help facilitate that.

Lily: Look, devon, first i just want to say that we both understand all of the reasons you have for wanting to take your company back. We know this is deeply, deeply personal for you.

Devon: And I appreciate you understanding that. Thank you.

Lily: Jill wants to move forward with the ipo.

Devon: Alright. And what does that mean for me?

Lily: Look, devon, the strength that we have lies in the unity of our two companies. And if we do this split, we could crush our chances of having a successful offering.

Devon: So… so, as much as you understand where I’m coming from, you’re rejecting what I’m asking for?

Lily: Yeah, that’s — that’s what it boils down to.

Devon: Um, cool. Then I guess you’re gonna make this ugly.

Abby: Sharon.

Sharon: Hi, abby. Uh, what can we get you?

Abby: Oh, um, a coffee and… your forgiveness.

Sharon: What? Why?

Abby: For storming out of here and making a scene the other day. I’m sure you heard what chance and I were talking about.

Sharon: Well —

Abby: I’m just — I’m absolutely mortified. I had no idea that things were gonna escalate that quickly.

Sharon: Look, I understand how hard the end of a marriage can be, whatever the circumstances are.

Abby: I can only imagine what you think of me.

Sharon: No, no, I’m — I’m quite fond of you. And devon and — and chance. That hasn’t changed. You know, you’ve all had a rough few years.

Sharon: Well, I want you to know I have no interest in passing any judgment or in discussing your personal life with anyone else, just in case you were worried.

Sharon: I had to practically stop myself from texting every hour on the hour to see how things were going. So, how did it go with the potential birth mother?

Connor: Hey. What took you so long?

Johnny: Math. I thought I’d never finish my homework. Just wait until you get to my grade. The word problems feel like some kind of punishment.

Connor: When I get to be ancient like you, maybe you can teach me how to do them. Unless you’ve forgotten by then. I know how hard it is to remember things when you get to be old — like you.

Chelsea: [ Chuckling ] Ouch! Why don’t you both go get something to drink? Dinner’s on the way.

[ Chuckles ] Uh, thank you for letting johnny come over for pizza. I know it means a lot to the boys.

Victoria: I know it means a lot to you, too.

Chelsea: Um, would it be okay if he stayed after dinner to watch a movie with connor?

Victoria: It is a school night, so I — I guess we’ll have to play that by ear.

Chelsea: Sure, sure. We’re flexible.

Johnny: Yeah, we’re working up an appetite.

Chelsea: It’s really sweet. They get along so well.

Victoria: Yeah, it’s easy at their age to go with the flow.

Chelsea: Hey, um, do you have a minute, or do you have to run off somewhere?

Victoria: Uh, I — I have a little while before I have to scoop katie up from ballet. Why? Is there something that you wanted to discuss?

Sharon: Oh, my gosh, I should just settle down and let you girls catch your breath. Um, they went to portland, oregon. I don’t know how much you know, abby.

Abby: Oh, well, nick just told me that they were meeting with a birth mother, but that’s all I know.

Mariah: Her name is delphine.

Tessa: She’s in her early 20s. She is going to college. She’s getting her bachelor’s degree. She is smart and thoughtful.

Mariah: And she and the baby daddy are no longer together. She’s completely on her own. But after a lot of soul searching, she decided that she didn’t want to be a mother yet.

Tessa: Yeah, she decided adoption was the best thing for her and her baby.

Mariah: She had a million questions for us, uh, probably just as many as we did for her.

Tessa: Yeah.

Sharon: Well, like what?

Tessa: I mean, everything from, “what’s your favorite color?” To, “what’s your medical history?” I mean, if you name it, we asked.

Mariah: And after the first meeting, uh, we decided it just wasn’t enough time to get to know her better, so we decided to do breakfast the next day. And then breakfast turned into a trip to the zoo and then seeing some of the sights.

Tessa: Yeah, we just really wanted to spend time together and get to know each other better. And I got to see how my beautiful wife carves out time for work.

Mariah: And I got to be there while tessa wrote some songs. Working remotely definitely has its privileges.

Abby: Well, it sounds like you got a wonderful trip.

Mariah: Yeah, we did. Um…

Tessa: It was scary and exciting.

Sharon: Um, so, what happens now? Do you just wait to hear from her?

Abby: Yeah, or do you go back to portland until delphine makes a decision?

Mariah: Well, we’ll definitely be keeping in touch.

Tessa: Because delphine made up her mind.

Mariah: She wants us to adopt her baby.

Sharon: Oh, my gosh!

Abby: Ahh!

Sharon: Oh, my gosh! Why didn’t you say that?! That’s amazing!

Mariah: I know!

Sharon: Oh, my gosh, congratulations!

Victoria: May I be perfectly honest?

Chelsea: Of course.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] When you reached out about johnny coming over tonight, i wanted to refuse the invitation.

Chelsea: Oh. Right. I mean, you had responded “yes” so quickly, I thought…

[ Sighs ] I’m sorry.

Victoria: What for?

Chelsea: That you felt you couldn’t refuse.

Victoria: I realized that it

[Sighs] — It wasn’t a big deal and I know that connor just wanted to have pizza with johnny and that if johnny knew about the invitation, he’d want to come. So, despite my reservations, I said yes.

Chelsea: Because you love your son.

Victoria: I want to support johnny and his relationship with connor. They’re growing so fast. I know family’s important.

[ Sighs ] But I just — I still feel very uncomfortable with the situation.

Chelsea: And by “the situation,” you mean me.

[ Breathes deeply ] You still don’t want johnny around me.

Lily: Devon, things do not have to get ugly.

Devon: How do you figure? Since you guys aren’t giving me what I’m asking for and you’re gonna make me essentially go to war for my own company, which is what I’ve been trying to avoid doing.

Lily: Yeah, we’re trying to avoid that, too. That’s why jill and I kept at it. We’re trying to find a way to resolve this amicably, okay? So, look, if we just stick with the status quo, then we can —

Devon: Here we go. “Status quo.”

Lily: Okay, you know what? Just hear me out, please. We keep the companies intact, right? So that way we maximize our potential for having a successful offering. Then we re-brand that entity, as part of the ipo, called chancellor worldwide.

Devon: Mm.

Lily: Okay?

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Lily: Then once we go public, once the dust settles, we buy you out for a very lucrative amount. And then you have the chance to create a brand-new hamilton-winters, one where you have complete autonomy like you want. And jill and I — we maintain our strength. I mean, it’s a win-win for everyone, right? There’s no acrimony. There’s no bloodshed. I mean, what do you think? Kids can change minds…

Devon: [ Sighs ] Oh. You know, I’m — I’m finding it difficult to see the benefits for me in what you’re proposing.

Lily: Jill and I think this is a fair and very good offer.

Devon: How do you find it to be fair when you and jill don’t have to give up anything, you still get to go public, and you hold on to the company that i poured my heart and soul into creating?

Lily: Sorry, I’m not giving up anything? I’m giving up the chance to work with my brother, to create something amazing with you. I mean, I’ve heard these stories about how siblings — they lose their connection and their bond when one parent dies.

Devon: That’s not gonna happen to us.

Lily: Really? It didn’t happen with nate?

Devon: Nate’s not our sibling, and you and I are closer than either of us have ever been to him, so I don’t know why you’re comparing us.

Lily: Devon, I’m trying to say that if we go to court over this, it is going to affect our relationship.

Devon: So, okay, then you’re saying that if I don’t accept what you and jill are offering me, you’re gonna cut me out of your life?

Lily: No, I’m not saying that. I am trying to salvage things because I want us to remain close.

Devon: You’re not doing that, though. You’re holding my company hostage, and you’re forcing me to make a decision, to choose either to go public with you guys or give it up. That’s what you’re doing.

Lily: No, I’m trying to keep us united. Look, I know how you get. When someone hurts you, you want to put a wall up and you trust no one, including me.

Devon: I never said I don’t trust you.

Lily: You didn’t have to.

Devon: What are you talking about, though? ‘Cause that’s not the way i feel. This isn’t about me not trusting. It’s not about me in pain from anything. This is a professional disagreement that you’re making personal, and I don’t know why you’re doing it. I don’t get why it’s so difficult.

Lily: Because it is difficult. It’s difficult when you’re walking away from someone or something that matters to you. I mean, at one point you wanted this merger, too.

Devon: Oh, I know I did. We — yeah, we all did. It looked good on paper at first, and then things changed.

Lily: Right. Okay. Great. You changed your mind. I get it, and I can respect it.

Devon: But you can’t accept it?

Lily: [ Sighs ] This is not a bad deal.

Devon: I don’t care about the deal. This is not about money. I mean, you can throw all the money in the world at me. You’re still making me start from scratch. You’re making me build an empire from the ground up. That’s what you’re doing.

Lily: Don’t you see that as an opportunity?

Devon: Oh, boy.

Lily: You can correct things this time that didn’t go right the first time.

Devon: Yeah. That’s — I’m sure it sounds real easy to you since you’re not the one that has to do it.

Lily: No, I do not think it’s easy, but wouldn’t you rather focus your energy on building a new legacy than fighting a potentially unsuccessful lawsuit against chancellor-winters?

Devon: I-I mean, it’s — it’s crazy to me.

Lily: Yeah, I 100% agree with you. It is crazy.

Devon: So, why don’t you give me what I’m asking for then?

Lily: I’m trying to, okay? I’m trying to end this war before it begins. And there is a viable option on the table that could actually make you happy if you would consider it.

Devon: I’ve already said that I —

Lily: Okay, don’t — don’t — please don’t give an answer, alright? Just think about it. That is all I’m asking, for you, for us, because whatever we do next, it’s going to change our lives. So let’s do something that’ll make our dad proud. I’ll see myself out.

Devon: [ Sighs ]

Abby: I’m just so happy for you ladies! Ooh!

Mariah: Thank you so much, abby.

Tessa: It’s huge, right?

Sharon: It’s definitely another monumental step forward.

Mariah: And we have so many more to go. We know. Don’t worry.

Tessa: Yes, we have talked about how this is just the beginning.

Mariah: And that we have a million more hurdles to clear before we bring a child home forever, but…

Tessa: Right now, in this moment, we just want to embrace our good fortune and celebrate how well everything went in oregon.

Mariah: Yeah. Nothing is set in stone. Delphine could change her mind today or tomorrow or even the day that the baby is born.

Tessa: Yeah, it could be a roller coaster.

Mariah: We’re arming ourselves for the worst, but we are sincerely hoping for the best.

Tessa: Yes, we have thought about all the possibilities in between, and we are just trying to prepare for wherever this journey takes us next.

Mariah: But nothing is gonna change what we know to be true in our hearts — that, no matter what, one day we’re gonna have a child of our own.

Tessa: It’s meant to be.

Abby: It’s the same maternal urge that I felt when all of us joined together and helped make my dream of a family a reality. I couldn’t have done it without you.

Mariah: And if I hadn’t have been dom’s surrogate, I would have never known how much i wanted to be a mother.

Abby: [ Sighs ] What a day.

Abby: [ Exhales heavily ]

Mariah: Um…do you want to talk?

Abby: Yeah.

Billy: Hey.

Lily: Hi.

Billy: You know, it’s only awkward if we let it be.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: Take a load off.

Lily: Charming as ever.

Billy: Don’t worry. I’m not staying. I’m just waiting to pick up my pizza.

Lily: Oh. When did they start serving pizza here?

Billy: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, exactly. Uh, it’s basically an oversized version of their flatbread, but I’m keeping that a secret from the kids. Abby’s asking for an honest opinion.

Lily: Oh, well, I’m sure johnny and katie will be more than happy to give an honest opinion.

Billy: Actually, it’s for, uh — for johnny and connor. They’re hanging out at chelsea’S.

Lily: Oh. Well, have fun. Don’t forget it’s a school night.

Billy: [ Chuckles ] So, what’s up with you? And don’t tell me nothing. I could see it in your eyes when you walked in.

Lily: Oh, it’s just, uh — just work.

Billy: Tough week?

Lily: [ Chuckles ] That is an understatement. But not your problem to solve anymore.

Billy: You know, things might be over between us, but that doesn’t mean that I’ve stopped caring about you… or wanting to support you. If you need someone to lean on, I’d like to be that person.

Victoria: You know, I have to keep reminding myself that this is not about me, that it’s about johnny. I’m not gonna say that he can’t spend time with you. We’ve all moved past that point. And I’m really trying so hard to operate in good faith.

Chelsea: I’m glad.

Victoria: But I still feel very protective of my son. And somehow I think he’s processed the fact that you’re his biological mother, and he’s welcomed you into his life. And he loves the idea that he and connor are half-brothers. But I can’t forget how devastated he was when we first told him. And I’m sorry. I’m really having a hard time getting used to this new norm of pizza night and holidays together. From my perspective, I just feel that everything is moving too quickly.

Chelsea: I get it. I do. If I was in your position, i would feel the exact same way. I forced the issue, and i shouldn’t have. It was selfish.

Victoria: You were going through a difficult time.

Chelsea: I was in a lot of pain and I was hurting, but i didn’t recognize how my actions were hurting other people. I blindsided you, victoria, several times. So, I’m very grateful that you’re just making an effort.

Victoria: I would do anything for my son.

Chelsea: I’m trying really hard to rebuild my life, and I’m really appreciative that you’re letting me even be the slightest part of johnny’s life.

Victoria: He’s a good kid.

Chelsea: And that’s because you’re such a good mom. His only mom. I promise you have nothing to fear in regards to that. I just — I just want to make you comfortable with this situation. I promise you we’re on the same side.

Mariah: So, I’m guessing that something is wrong. I-I mean, I’d like to think that you were just happy for tessa and me, but I — I have my suspicions.

Abby: I am. I am so happy for the two of you, um, but… you know that chance and i were having problems?

Mariah: Yeah, but I was hoping that you guys would find a way to work things out?

Abby: Well, um, things got more complicated since the last time we spoke.

Mariah: Do I even want to know what that means?

Abby: No. Probably not. And I hate telling you this because you guys have such amazing news, and I… I just — I think you should hear it from me first. Chance and I are… getting divorced.

Mariah: Oh, my gosh. Abby, I am — I am so sorry.

Abby: And I just keep thinking about the time when chance was in spain and you gave us the most incredible gift — our son. And I thought chance was gonna come home and we were just gonna have the happiest future together as a family.

Mariah: Look, even though you’re not gonna be married, you’re still going to be a family. You’re going to be amazing co-parents because of the love that you have for dom. That’s never gonna change.

Abby: Thank you for saying that. Ahh, that makes me feel a lot better.

[ Sniffles ] But, um, you know what? I should go. I should let you get back to catching up with sharon. I just wish the two of you the best.

Lily: It’s just nothing seems to be going right lately. Nothing. It’s like, devon and nate still aren’t talking. Devon now wants to end our partnership.

Billy: What?

Lily: And then there was this guy I used to have in my life.

Billy: Yeah. The worst. Can’t believe you liked him.

Lily: I loved him.

Billy: [ Sighs ] You know, just because things didn’t last forever with us, it doesn’t mean it was all bad. I still believe we have something. After all, you’re sitting here.

Lily: Well, still.

Billy: Devon wanting to end the partnership — you mentioned a few days ago you were dealing with some kind of nightmare with the ipo. Is that what you were talking about?

Lily: Yeah.

Billy: [ Scoffs ] So, I guess nate was right when he said that the root of their problems all stemmed from devon’s desire to be a lone wolf.

Lily: Yeah, and now I’m the lone wolf.

Billy: With a c-suite filled with empty chairs, including the one that I occupied. Let me just say, lily, that that is not a reflection of your leadership.

Lily: Well, it’s hard to not doubt myself.

Billy: No. You did everything you could to get people to work together. You did amazing things for that company. Let me ask you point blank — do you regret any of the decisions that you made? Taking over chancellor media, then chancellor industries, the merger, the ipo?

Lily: No. I don’t regret anything. I’m — I’m really proud of what I’ve accomplished.

Billy: Good. Because you should be. And I hope you can see that this is a golden opportunity. Your heart is the beat of life.

You will rise to the occasion, and you will show what a strong leader you are. In fact, I’ll go a step further and say, without having to mediate between the issues of your nearest and dearest, you will rise to even greater heights.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] That’s an interesting perspective.

Billy: Well, trust me. And I do have a little bit of experience with family business drama. Over time, eventually, everyone will forgive and forget.

Lily: Even devon?

Billy: Especially devon. You two have an incredible bond. He’ll get over it.

Abby: Mariah and tessa had a wonderful visit with a potential birth mother, and, fingers crossed, things are looking good.

Devon: Yeah? Really?

Abby: Yeah.

Devon: That’s fantastic. Good for them. They deserve it. And it’s nice to hear that good things are happening to someone somewhere.

Abby: I don’t like the sound of that. Do you have an update about dissolving the merger?

Devon: Yeah, I do. And it’s not what I saw coming.

Sharon: So, overall, how did the two of you get along with delphine?

Tessa: Well, our conversations with her were challenging. I mean, she’s nice. She’s young.

Sharon: She’s scared.

Tessa: I think she was trying to be what she thought we wanted her to be.

Mariah: But to be fair, we were doing the same thing.

Sharon: Well, everyone’s expectations are so high right now. You’re both hoping that she’ll like you enough to believe that you’ll be great parents, and, for her, she’s obviously decided that adoption is the best route for her, but she’s got to be experiencing a lot of complicated emotions. Giving up a baby’s never easy. And what about the father? Did you say that they’re no longer together? But does he know about the pregnancy and what she intends to do?

Tessa: Yes, delphine assured us that he is on board with the adoption and relinquishing all of his parental rights.

Sharon: Oh. Okay, good. Did you notice any reluctance on delphine’s part?

Mariah: Well…

Tessa: She seemed determined to stay on this path with us.

Mariah: But she did have some concerns.

Billy: Hey.

Chelsea: Hey.

Billy: I, uh — hi. Is, uh — is everything alright?

Victoria: Yeah. Why wouldn’t it be?

Billy: Well, because you just said that you were gonna quickly drop off, a-and then you’re still here.

Victoria: We were chatting.

Billy: Oh, okay. And how is, uh…

Chelsea: Everything’s fine.

Billy: Okay, great.

Victoria: Uh, well, I’m gonna get going. I’ll leave you to your pizza.

Chelsea: Why don’t you stay?

Victoria: Stay? For dinner?

Chelsea: Yeah. Why not? You said you’ve got some time before katie needs to be picked up from ballet. It’ll be fun.

Devon: So, jill has decided to move forward with the ipo. And in order to do that, she needs to keep chancellor merged with hamilton-winters.

Abby: So, she won’t let you buy back your own company?

Devon: No. No, she won’T. And she and lily cooked up this idea to buy me out for a big profit and leave me with basically nothing but the ability to create a new company from scratch and call it hamilton-winters.

Abby: Well, empires have been built on a lot less than that.

Devon: Yeah, but — are you playing devil’s advocate?

Abby: [ Chuckles ] Just hear me out for a second. If you take this deal, one, you would make your sister happy, which isn’t the worst thing in the world, and, two, you could start something brand new, which is right up your alley.

Devon: Right. How do I just walk away from the biggest professional achievement of my life, though? Like, the company is invaluable because I created it with neil and it’s my connection to him. If I leave it, I mean, that’s — doesn’t that defeat the purpose?

Abby: I’m not so sure. I mean, I don’t think that’s the truth, at least not the part about the connection to neil.

Devon: How do you figure?

Abby: [ Sighs ] Neil is gonna be a part of everything you do — I mean, every move, every decision that you make. Yes, neil was here physically when you guys started hamilton-winters, but neil is gonna be a part of you in everything that you do moving forward.

Devon: So, what are you saying?

Abby: Make your decision on how you see your future, not how you feel about the past.

Chelsea: Mmm.

Johnny: Pizza!

Billy: The name’s dad.

Tessa: Yes. Yeah. She wondered if the baby was gonna have grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins.

Sharon: [ Laughs ]

Mariah: So, uh, we got to show her some pictures and let her know all about you and nick and crystal, noah, faith.

Tessa: Yeah, and all of our friends who are gonna be around the baby. And we tried to think of everything we could to tell her about genoa city.

Mariah: It’s the perfect place to fall in love and build a family, raise a kid.

Sharon: Did she ask about

your childhoods?

Mariah: Uh, she did.

Tessa: Yes. And we told her that we did not have the best situation growing up, but we were not gonna be making the same mistakes.

Mariah: No. Just new and different ones.

Sharon: Of course. Well, I think it’s really wise of her to ask those questions. You know, she obviously liked what you had to say. She chose you.

Tessa: So now we have to think about things like, are we gonna be in the birthing room?

Mariah: Yeah. How are we gonna structure an open adoption? Because delphine wants to know the kid, and we are totally fine with that.

Tessa: Yeah.

Sharon: Well, that’s why you have an attorney to walk you through that.

Mariah: I know. We’re gonna have a lot of questions for christine.

Sharon: Just make sure the agreement she draws up for you covers every detail, even things that you think don’t matter right now. Trust me — everything matters.

[ Sighs ] But I’m — I’m doing what I need to do to get rid of him. I am committed to playing my part.

[ Sighs ] Not that committed. But enough to keep the plan moving forward. Anyway, did you talk to —

Jack: Everything’s all set. Now we just have to sit and wait and trust the process… and the genoa city police department.

Diane: [ Sighs ] Okay.

Jeremy: I am ready. Now, let’s see what you’ve got in store for me.

[ Knock on door ]

Chance: Detective chancellor, gcpd. How you doing, mr. Stark?

Jeremy: What are you doing here, detective? Did something happen in the hotel?

Jeremy: Well, certainly can’t be about me. I’ve been a model citizen to your fair city.

Chance: You’re right. I haven’t heard about you participating in any criminal activity here. But I did get a call from chicago P.D. This morning. You been to the windy city lately, stark?

Chance: I’m executing a warrant on behalf of the chicago P.D. Apparently, you haven’t been a model citizen of their fair city.

Jeremy: What exactly does that mean?

Chance: It means I’m gonna have to search the premises.

Chance: I’m afraid so.

Jeremy: [ Sighs ] Look, I’m in my robe. Mind giving me a few minutes to change?

Devon: Hey.

Lily: We have to discuss reversing this merger with jill. Immediately. Unless you’ve changed your mind and you want to keep the companies together.

You know, as a matter of fact, the big difference between our mothers is that I am protecting mine from a criminal that was lured to town by phyllis.

Phyllis: I would like you to cut the “you seem angry” stuff.

[ Releases suction on straw ] I don’t think you mean it. You know, it doesn’t — it doesn’t suit you. Mm. Why are you staring at me?

Tucker: Oh, you seem angry.

Phyllis: I am angry.

Tucker: [ Chuckles ]

Phyllis: This woman has come into town, she’s manipulating and harming people I love. And… yeah, I’m angry. And the tucker that I find interesting won’t understand that, because he’s ruthless and self-serving.

Tucker: That’s your version of flattery?

Phyllis: Most people wouldn’t take that as a compliment, but…

Tucker: Obviously, I’m not most people.

Phyllis: Mm.

Tucker: So, what specifically has you upset today?

Phyllis: Have you been listening to me?

Tucker: I’ve been listening to you bitch about diane. That’s all you ever do. But from what you’ve told me, she’s got her hands full with stark, and she’s trying to build some future with jack. So, what harm has she done you?

Phyllis: She doesn’t have a future with jack.

Tucker: Oh, if you say so.

Phyllis: I think jack will eventually be onto her. I think he will. She’s just using jack. She’s all over town, cozying up to stark. It’s definitely gonna bite her.

Jill: I just have one question for you, devon. What the hell is wrong with you?

Devon: Jill, there’s nothing wrong with me. I just want to maintain the integrity of the company that neil and I created. And the best way to do that is to revoke the merger and reclaim hamilton-winters.

Jill: Mm-hmm. You do realize the damage that will be done to both companies’ images, don’t you? Especially since we’ve been so vocal and public about bringing them together for your family’s legacy.

Devon: I do, yes. I know the damage that’s gonna come from the press, and I think that there’s more damage to be done by us staying partnered together, so I’m willing to take that P.R. Hit. And listen, jill, if you and i can’t see eye-to-eye on this, I-I really feel like this is gonna turn into a personal battle that none of us want to have. Right?

Lily: Yeah, of course, none of us want to have that. But this is huge, devon. This could be a disaster.

Devon: That’s — okay, i think “disaster” is a little dramatic. It’s gonna impact us for sure, but it’s only gonna be on a professional level.

Jill: This is the only level we’re talking about.

Devon: No, not me. My company has never been about just making money. That was not the point of this merger. And I think that’s where we differ. So I need both of you to understand where I’m coming from, on an emotional level. And that’s my argument as your brother and as katherine’s grandson.

[ Zipper opening ]

Jeremy: Well, what is it that you’re looking for? Is it something specific? Maybe I could help. Is it bigger than a breadbox?

Chance: Just read the warrant, stark. Everything you need to know is in that.

Jeremy: I don’t need to. I haven’t been to chicago in years, so I know this is all a big mistake.

Chance: You know, I’d think you’d be a little bit more curious about that thing. I mean, if I was being wrongfully searched, I’d want to know exactly what’s going on.

Jeremy: Maybe we approach things differently.

Chance: I guess so.

Jeremy: I’ve learned, in the last six years, that, uh, keeping my head down and not asking a lot of questions is usually the best way to deal with authorities.

Chance: Six years, huh? Long time.

Jeremy: It is.

Chance: What brings you to genoa city right out of prison?

Jeremy: Ah, just some personal matters.

Chance: Staying long?

Jeremy: Undetermined. I’m getting vaccinated with prevnar 20. A pfizer vaccine! So am I. Because I’m at risk for pneumococcal pneumonia. I’m asking about

Phyllis: You haven’t seen them around town?

Tucker: Diane and stark?

Phyllis: Yeah, diane and stark. She’s practically been sitting on his lap.

Tucker: [ Chuckles ] Well, I know about their past. Maybe he’s her future, too, and not jack.

Phyllis: It doesn’t even matter anymore, because she’s already insinuated herself into every aspect of my life, even my career.

Tucker: Oh, so you’re saying that diane is responsible for your daughter firing you?

Phyllis: Yes, she is. She is. And, uh, what makes matters worse is, now my son has gone off on me, saying that I have to have a pure heart in order to work with him, and maybe him hiring me was premature.

Tucker: A pure heart?

Phyllis: Yeah.

Tucker: Good luck with that one.

Phyllis: Yeah. He thinks I’m consumed with hatred for diane.

Tucker: You are.

Phyllis: Yeah, I am. I am. Does it matter? I can multitask. I can hate that woman and still do a good job.

Tucker: Yeah, except that you’re starting to lose everything, due to this woman who — who you wouldn’t dump a bucket of water on if she were on fire. So, what’s it gonna take to, uh — to let go of this

[Scoffs] — This crippling disdain you have for her?

Devon: And listen, I’ll be the first one to admit that i made a mistake with this merger. Because, at first, my gut said, “don’t do it, because our companies are too different.” And I initially pushed back on the whole idea. You know this.

Lily: Yeah, but it didn’t take too much convincing to get you on board.

Devon: Oh, you don’t think so, now? Because you’ve been saying it took me too long. But either way, I said yes because I thought it was going to be good for our family. And I thought it was going to bond us together, which clearly didn’t happen, given everything that went down with nate. And through all of that, I also realized just how important autonomy is to me and that this whole — this “decision-making by committee” process is not for me.

Jill: I see.

Devon: And look, this doesn’t mean that I don’t respect or trust either one of you, because I do. It just means that we have different goals when it comes to our businesses. Because, like, I don’t care about my company being publicly traded. That doesn’t matter to me. What matters to me is carrying on the family legacy in the right way. And this company is not just what neil and I created together. It’s what bonded us, and it’s what helped us heal after one of the most difficult times in our life. So it matters. It’s important. And I’m not just going to hand it over to the highest bidder.

Chance: [ Sighs ]

Jeremy: [ Chuckles ] It’s not that big of a suite. Alright, I think you’re running out of places to search.

Chance: Step away from the door, please.

Jeremy: What?

Chelsea: Step away from the door, stark.

Jeremy: Fine.

Chance: Look at that. Building schematics. Chicago, illinois, north shore. Are you into pricey lake michigan real estate, stark?

Jeremy: No, I’m not. I have no idea how that got there.

Chance: Ooh, got some photos of the entrances, alleyways.

Jeremy: Maybe it was left by a previous guest.

Chance: Yeah, yeah, it’s a possibility. You know what? That would be one hell of a coincidence, because this is the exact building that the chicago P.D. Is concerned about. You see, the newman family — they own an apartment in the building. Last night, it was broken into. Surveillance video shows a man about your size entering the building around midnight, wearing a black windbreaker.

Jeremy: Hmm. I was here the whole night.

Chance: That should be easy to prove, then.

Chance: I do have one question for you, though. Do you own a black windbreaker, stark?

[ Cellphone rings ]

Jack: Here. Oh. Hey, kyle.

Kyle: How’s everything going?

Jack: Uh, diane is with me. She is safe. The plan is under way.

Kyle: Okay, but what does that mean? What is the plan?

Jack: I can’t get into specifics right now. I will see you soon.

Kyle: Can I do anything? I want to help.

Jack: The best thing you can do is make sure your family is safe and assure summer everything’s going to be fine very soon. I got to go.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Summer: Was that, jack?

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Jeremy: Look, I don’t know any of the newmans, and I don’t know what a burglar in their building has to do with me.

Chance: The housekeeper called police early this morning, stark, reported that a very valuable necklace was taken. You see, that was the only thing stolen, nothing else — no artwork, no other pieces of jewelry. So whoever broke in knew exactly what they were looking for.

Jeremy: Wasn’t me, ’cause i have no idea what the hell you’re talking about.

Chance: Well, that same housekeeper also did find a pair of men’s reading glasses by a safe. And we ran the prints on those. You’re not gonna believe the coincidence. Came back as a match with someone in the federal database — you.

Jeremy: [ Laughs ] I’m being set up. Okay? But it doesn’t matter, because I was here all night, and i don’t have a necklace.

Chance: Do you mind if i search your person?

Jeremy: Yes, I do! Now, I’ve been more than accommodating, detective. So we’re through here.

Chance: Should have read the warrant, stark. You’d realize you don’t have a choice.

Kyle: Yeah, I was just checking on my father.

Summer: Is everything okay? Is diane safe?

Kyle: She is. For now. All I can hope is that she stays that way, because they won’t let me help.

Summer: I’m glad to hear that she’s alright. I-I know that you want to protect her. I just think it’s best for us — me, you and harrison — if you don’t get involved.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] How did I know you were gonna say that?

Summer: Look, it’s not like I have some irrational grudge against your mom. I know that you feel like you’re caught in the middle. I get it. I feel the same way about my mom, and I would never wish that turmoil on you. But I’m trying to protect our son, and I can’t pretend like I don’t have concerns about diane. Just like I would with anyone who complicated ours and harrison’s life.

Kyle: Look, I don’t know what you expect from me. Do you think this situation with stark with make me cut off my mother? Because that won’t happen. I would never ask you to cut phyllis out of your life, no matter how much trouble she’s caused.

Phyllis: Hmm. Okay. So, what would it take for me to get over my disdain for diane, you ask? I don’t know if she’d leave town so easy. Or she could get in a car and drive off a cliff. Either one is fine with me.

Tucker: What I was getting at, with the question is, perhaps it would be better for your overall well-being if you, um, shifted your focus to something more productive.

Phyllis: What idea do you have in mind to be more productive?

Tucker: Nothing necessarily. Uh, daniel’s project seems interesting, though. What’s that all about?

Phyllis: Oh, yeah. I’m not giving you information about daniel’s project.

Tucker: I mean, maybe I could help them.

Phyllis: My daughter already works with a sociopath. I’m not handing over daniel’s ideas to you on a silver platter. I’m not gonna do that.

Tucker: What is it, top secret?

[ Both chuckle ] Is that what you’re telling me?

Phyllis: I’m telling you to stay away from my son. That’s what I’m telling you.

Jill: Devon, I completely understand everything you’ve just said. I just think that your timing is absolute garbage. Why couldn’t you have come to these conclusions six months ago? Lily, what do you think?

Lily: I think it’s ridiculous. I mean, our father’s company is just as important to me, and I would never let someone come in and slice it up and dismantle it.

Devon: How do you not see, though, that that’s the direction it’s gonna go after the ipo deal?

Lily: Look, if you trust me, then trust me to guide us through this process. You can protect our father’s company, just like jill and i can protect katherine’S.

Devon: Right, but that’s the problem here, is I don’t think that you’re protecting anything, either one of you, because it feels like you just want to jump right back out into harm’s way. We just had two different people try to come after our company before we even went public. Two people that were supposed to be our family. Plus a newman. So I don’t feel safe. I don’t feel comfortable. I don’t feel safe. And I know, in order to, I need to have my company stand on its own, and I need to be the one to make the important decisions for it. And I need to be the one to protect it. And I hear neil’s voice in my head as clear as day, saying no to having shareholders. So I implore both of you to please let me take back control of our father’s company.

Jeremy: Hmm. Been set up. Diane jenkins or jack abbott or both of them have cooked up this thing together. Okay? I did not go to chicago.

Chance: How’d your glasses get there, then?

Jeremy: I don’t know. But why don’t you ask diane, huh, right after you ask her how those blueprints got under the mattress?

Chance: Okay, so, diane jenkins — she’s the reason you’re in town.

Jeremy: Didn’t say that. I came here to collect a personal debt. And the person that owes me the money is not paying me, so they’ve concocted this — this half-assed plan to frame me. But it’s a joke because you have no concrete evidence.

Chance: Stark, I’m gonna search your person now.

Jeremy: No, you’re not, no, you’re not, okay? Because this is borderline harassment. Okay, so, you can search the room all you want. But we are done here. I’m not a doctor. I’m no

Tucker: No, I wouldn’t dream of interfering in daniel’s aspirations. Everyone needs a dream. And I’m particularly impressed that he’s kind of leaning in towards positivity. He’ll find that the more positive vibrations he puts out into the universe, the more they’ll be, uh, reciprocated.

[ Chuckles ]

Phyllis: That’s what you do, put out positive vibes?

Tucker: You know, I’ve done a lot of bad stuff in my time. Uh, since my crash in monte carlo, I’ve — I’ve worked hard and staying optimistic, more zenlike in my attitude towards the world and my place in it.

Phyllis: Wow. That must be super fun for you.

Tucker: Well, I get angry sometimes, like the other night with you, but mostly I’m able to stay calm in the face of adversity. That’s what I’m all about these days. Obviously, daniel is, too.

Phyllis: Maybe so.

Tucker: You know, I’d like to sit down and talk with him sometime.

Phyllis: Oh, alright. Well, um, you know what I would rather do? I-I would rather sit in a car and drive cross-country with diane, with no radio on and the windows welded shut than allow you to have a conversation about business with my son. And by the way, he’s a really smart guy. He’ll see somebody like you coming a mile away, just so you know.

Jeremy: I told you from the beginning, my issues with diane has nothing to do with you.

Jack: I wouldn’t presume otherwise.

Jeremy: And you — I didn’t buy your act for a second. You’re still the money-grabbing snake you’ve always been.

Diane: I’m surprised you’re up so early, jeremy. I’m guessing you got in late last night.

Jeremy: You know I didn’t go anywhere last night.

Diane: That’s the reason he’s at the same hotel as me. He — he — he just won’t leave me alone.

Chance: That true?

Jeremy: Absolutely not. This is another one of diane’s schemes. The building schematics, that jacket — it’s not mine. They didn’t come here to discuss a debt. They wanted to see how all of their planted evidence has risen to the surface. And you’re buying it, detective.

Chance: Save your story for your lawyer and the chicago P.D. I don’t want to hear it.

Jeremy: Oh, yeah, I will. And this will be laughed out of court because there is no concrete evidence.

Chance: Maybe, stark, but you know what? This is not even my case. I’m helping out some friends in chicago. So in order to complete my job, I’m gonna have to search you now.

Jill: Devon, I understand your emotional attachment to what you and neil built. I really do, because I feel the same way about katherine’s company.

[ Sighs ]

[ Chuckles ] Please don’t think that I don’t hear that old bat’s voice in my head every single time I have a difficult decision to make. Generally speaking, I don’t believe that emotion and sentimentality have any place in the business world. But this merger was different. This was not just about the numbers. This was about family.

[ Sighs ] And, devon, if you think that combining the two companies is gonna be bad for your family, we have to take that under consideration. Okay? Jill: Yeah, that’s a good idea.

Devon: I appreciate you at least being willing to do that.

Lily: So, if you can maybe give us some space, some time to talk about it and figure out where we go from here.

Devon: Uh… [ Sighs ] I occa

Chance: So, he’s saying that you stole the necklace and gave it to him.

Diane: That’s preposterous. I haven’t been to chicago in years.

Chance: Where were you last night?

Diane: Well, if you really must know, I — I was with jack all night.

Jack: It’s the truth, chance.

Chance: What exactly is your connection to mr. Stark?

Diane: [ Sighs ] We had a history back in my days in L.A., And I’m not proud to admit it, but we dated briefly. And then I discovered that he was smuggling money out of the country to be laundered. And when I tried to leave, he threatened me and blackmailed me.

Jeremy: Oh, give me a break.

Diane: And I was only let off the hook when they hauled him off to prison.

Jeremy: Yeah, little miss innocent right here.

Chance: That’s enough, okay?

Diane: Once he was released, like I said, he’s been stalking me and — and threatening not only me but my family. H-he’s claiming that I owe him money or something.

Chance: [ Sighs ] You can vouch for all this?

Jack: I can. To the best of my knowledge, everything she just said is accurate.

Jeremy: You don’t know anything, abbott.

Chance: Stop it. And why didn’t you bring this to the police in the first place?

Diane: To be honest, I was embarrassed to be in a relationship with that man. And you know, he kept his threats vague. He was — he was careful not to cross any lines. But what charges could have been brought against him?

Jeremy: You know what? This is a load of crap. She’s a filthy liar. You know what? None of this is gonna stick. It’s all circumstantial. I’ll be out by lunch.

Chance: Oh, you think so? Even if the burglary case is flimsy, man, you’re a paroled ex-con in possession of stolen goods. That’s a class g felony in the state of wisconsin. That’s up to 10 years.

Jack: Maybe you’ll get time off on good behavior again.

Jeremy: Oh, [Scoffs].

Chance: Unh-unh, unh-unh. Hey, don’t try it.

Jeremy: You’re all in on this scam, huh? This whole damn town had to be set up.

Chance: Hey, cool yourself down. Let’s take a walk.

Jeremy: Alright.

Chance: Come on.

Jeremy: Sleep lightly, diane. I’ll be back. You haven’t seen the last of me.

[ Clicks tongue ]

Diane: I think we have.

Chance: Come on.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ] It’s over, jack. It’s finally over.

[ Sighing ] Oh, thank you.

Summer: So, where does that leave us? My mom causes trouble, your mom cause trouble.

Kyle: No, no, no, no, you keep putting them on the same level. I don’t think they are. Your mom started this whole thing. There is a difference.

Summer: The difference is, is I acknowledge my mom’s flaws. I don’t put her up on some saintly pedestal.

Kyle: You think that’s what I’m doing?

[ Cellphone rings ]

Summer: Is that jack?

Kyle: Yeah. Stark is in custody. They’re transferring him to chicago P.D.

Summer: That’s great news.

Kyle: It’s over.

Summer: [ Sighing ] Yeah.

Kyle: What’s wrong, babe? The threat is gone. Everything can go back to normal.

Summer: For now.

Devon: [ Sighs ] Hey, man. It’s been one hell of a morning. Could I get a scotch neat, please?

Tucker: Son?

Devon: Figured you’d have left town by now, since all your plans for me and ashley fell apart.

Tucker: No, that’s just a minor setback. I still think there’s a way to earn your forgiveness.

Devon: Well, I don’T.

Tucker: Hmm. On edge today, huh? What’s got you so rattled? Nothing to do with me, right?

Devon: I don’t need you to care.

Tucker: No?

Devon: No.

Tucker: No, but I do. I’m just trying to help any way I can, okay?

Devon: Is that right?

Tucker: Yeah.

Devon: [ Chuckles ] Okay. If I’ve learned anything, tucker, lately, it’s to trust my instincts. And my gut told me, from the day you showed up in town, not to trust you. So I’m gonna go ahead and stay with that and drink alone.

Tucker: Fair enough. But you should know I’m not planning on going anywhere.

Tucker: Hey, that’s for that and anything else he wants.

Devon: Well, thanks for the heads-up. I will make sure to not be wherever you are.

[ Slams glass on bar ] Keep the change.

Summer: It means that this latest adventure might be over, but trouble and chaos have been recurring themes in our lives ever since diane’s return.

Kyle: Oh, you mean since we moved back to genoa city, where all the people who hate and conspire against her live. They’ve been coming after her nonstop. First, phyllis, then nikki, ashley, tucker, jeremy stark. You’re blaming the victim.

Summer: Okay, just stop! She is not a helpless victim. These people that want her gone, it’s because of the things that she’s done in the past. They don’t trust her because of choices that she made. They didn’t all get together and say, “who should we pick on next? Oh, yeah, diane jenkins.”

Kyle: I did not say that.

Summer: She chose to fake her own death. She chose to abandon you and assume a false identity and engage in illegal activity with stark. She chose all of those things, and now she’s forced to face those repercussions. And she’s dragging you and jack down with her, and me and harrison by association.

Kyle: No one is being dragged down.

Summer: Jack just broke into my grandmother’s apartment to steal a seven-figure necklace to help diane. How much lower could he go?

Kyle: That was one instance.

Summer: She is forcing us to choose between her and my family. And you know what, kyle? We are married. They’re supposed to be your family, too, and they have always been there for us, unlike diane.

Kyle: That’s not fair.

Summer: The hell it’s not! Look, I’m not trying to justify anyone’s behavior towards diane since she’s gotten back. I just — I need you to see her for who she is. Take her off the pedestal.

[ Door opens ]

Diane: Ooh,

Jack: Oh.

Diane: Oh, I cannot believe we pulled this off.

Jack: I think only one person is more surprised than you are.

Diane: You?

Jack: Jeremy stark.

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: Though I think the reality of it all is coming to him pretty quicklym now that chance is handing him off to the chicago police department. I don’t think will be bothered by stark anytime soon.

Diane: Our plan worked perfectly.

Jack: Speaking of plan, there’s one more thing we can’t forget. Nikki, I-it’s — it’s jack. Uh, I heard about the robbery in chicago. It’s very upsetting, I know. Uh, give me a call. I have some good news and some bad. Would you call me.

Diane: You know, without you, none of this would have happened. You took a big risk getting that necklace, and you came up with a better plan than the one I originally had in the works. And you just stepped up when chance was throwing those questions at me, and you never lost your cool.

Jack: I couldn’T. It was too much on the line. I couldn’t lose sight of our goal. We had to remove stark as a threat so that we could focus on what really matters.

Diane: What’s that?

Jack: Us.

Diane: Mmm. Mmm. [ Chuckles ]
