Recap written by Christine

At Newman Enterprises, Adam was making the CEO’s office his own. Gone was Victoria’s portrait, and pictures of Adam with Victor and with Connor were on display. Victor walked in and noted that Adam had already added his own touches to the office. Adam saw no reason to waste time. He had a lot ot prove since his days might be numbered. Victor asked why Adam would think so, and Adam said they both knew why Victor appointed him CEO. “This has little to do with my abilities and it has everything to do with Victoria,” Adam said. Adam knew there was no way Victor would just let Victoria leave the family. He was aware that Victor gave him this job to send a message to Victoria. Adam said he was the last one Victoria would want to run the company, because she knew he’d have no problem dismantling her signature accomplishments if it didn’t align with his vision for the company. “I always knew you were a very smart boy,” Victor said. Adam didn’t care why he was hired as CEO. He said he’d play the part better than Victor imagined.

Adam thought it was a smart move using the black sheep as bait to bring Victoria home. He said most people in his shoes would be insulted, but he wasn’t, because this gave him a chance to prove he should be in charge of the company. He said the company would run more smoothly than it did with Victoria and the three ring circus constantly surrounding her. Victor suggested it was unfair to judge someone going through a rough patch. “She has no problem doing it to me,” Adam said. Adam knew that Victor thought of things from every angle, so he’d considered the possibility that this move wouldn’t work. Victor confirmed that he had. Adam planned to dazzle Victor so much that he’d keep him in this position even if Victoria returned. Victor said Adam was CEO before, and he didn’t do a good job.

Adam acknowledged that he was CEO, back when they thought Victor was dead. Adam had felt a huge responsibility to preserve Victor’s legacy. Adam had been determined to do it his way, and he was proud even if he didn’t want to admit it. Victor said Adam had been arrogant. Adam agreed. He confessed that he alienated people who tried to help him. Victor had been appalled by Adam’s methods. Adam was disgusted too, in retrospect, but he said got results. He said that wasn’t his time back then, but he and Victor were different now. Adam was sure he was the one to lead this company into the next decade. He was speaking about how ready and willing he was when Michael walked in. Adam grumbled about Michael not knocking. Adam wanted to know what this was all about, but Victor said it wasn’t Adam’s concern. Victor and Michael left.

Sally took the reins at Newman Media. She settled into the CEO’s seat and smiled. Adam arrived and said she looked at home here in this office. He liked her outfit. She’d taken inspiration from female CEOs to see how they used their wardrobe to convey power. She showed him her desk plate and thanked him for the gift. He said he delegated the task to someone else, which was something she’d have to do more of in her new role as CEO. She loved hearing him call her that. He said she’d risen from lowly assistant at Fenmore’s to top dog at Newman Media. He asked what she was going to do to make people take notice. She said content was still king, but they were going to focus on connectivity. She wanted to be the ones people turned to when they wanted news or a different perspective. She said she needed to find a good person to be COO. She asked if he knew anyone. He praised the work she did as COO. He hoped she’d be as fortunate to find as good of a second in command as he did. She asked how his first day on the job was going.

Adam said he’d been unable to stop himself from saying he knew Victor only hired him to force Victoria to come back and reclaim her throne. Adam said Victor wouldn’t confirm or deny it, but it was obvious. Sally thought Adam needed to make a splash to prove beyond a doubt that he deserved to be there. Adam said he’d told Victor that too. Adam said he was going to miss Sally’s mind. Nikki was his COO, and he was sure she wouldn’t support him. Sally promised she’d always support him. As she loosened his tie and they kissed, she promised they’d always be a team. He said they’d always play to win. She said they’d be busy in their new positions. She helped him out of his shirt. He said they’d better not waste their time together.

At Society, Victor told Michael to find Victoria and Ashland and figure out what they were up to. Michael said he wasn’t being paid to skulk around in the shadows – he was Victor’s legal counsel. Michael had some counseling to give. Michael hated Ashland almost as much as Victor, and he was shocked Victoria went with him. Victor said the heart was uncontrollable and unpredictable. Michael recalled Victor saying he thought this was more about Victoria wanting to cut ties and less about Ashland. As a father, Michael knew how hard it was to let go, but maybe it was time.

Victor said Victoria was an extremely capable businesswoman, but she kept gravitating toward extremely flawed men. He didn’t understand it. Michael thought it was easy to explain. “Look at her father. She adores you. You are a powerful deeply flawed man who has proven himself capable of changing,” Michael said. Victor was offended. “How can you conflate me with those two bastards who’ve caused [Victoria] nothing but pain?,” he asked. Victor said enough armchair psychology. He shifted the topic back to Victoria and Ashland. Michael asked why Victor didn’t put his PI team on this. Victor said that this could require the finesse only Michael had. Victor said Michael had a personal stake in this because he wanted to get even with Ashland as much as Victor did.

Victor wanted this done before Victoria was hurt again. Michael said it was Victoria’s choice. Victor thought it was obvious that Victoria was incapable of making up her mind and incapable of leaving Ashland. “I know that Victoria wants to be here. She made a mistake and she knows it. I’m certain she does. But she wants to be back here with her family. Back running the company,” Victor stated. Michael said Victoria would return in her own time. “I don’t give a damn about ‘her own time.’ I want it to happen now before [Ashland] does more damage,” Victor declared.

Nick and Nikki met at Crimson Lights. She was upset Victoria wasn’t returning her calls. Nick hadn’t heard from Victoria either, but last time they talked, she was determined to make the move without interference. Nikki lamented that Victoria had turned her back on them. She was sure Ashland loved it. Nick said Victoria couldn’t cut them out completely because, while the kids were away at boarding school right now, Genoa City would always be their home. Sounding hopeful, Nikki said that Victoria must have told Billy where she was going. Nick doubted Billy would be okay with this arrangement.

Nikki said Victoria was one of the smartest people she knew, but Nikki didn’t recognize her anymore. Nick didn’t think Victoria’s choice was going to work out. Nikki said Victor was counting on Ashland doing something to break Victoria’s heart again. Nick worried that Victoria would be so ashamed by her choice that she wouldn’t turn to people who loved her the most. Nick said Victor replacing Victoria with Adam might be more than Victoria could handle. Nikki knew, but she went along with it because she was desperate to snap Victoria out of the daze. She even decided to step down as co-CEO to give Adam full control. Nick was willing to do whatever it took too. Unlike Victor, Nikki wasn’t confident about Victoria’s response. She was afraid this move would drive Victoria away for good.

Nick said he cleared the air with Victoria before she left and told her he still had her back no matter what. He wanted her to know she had someone in her corner in case things didn’t work out like she wanted. He said Victoria was sure she and Ashland would have an amazing life away from her family, and the Newmans would have to let it play out. Nikki wasn’t ready for that just yet.

Billy was at the park. He called Victoria, who didn’t answer. He left a message saying that, the last time they spoke, she told him she was leaving town. Lily came up and overheard Billy on the call. He didn’t want to add to the difficulty of her move, and he didn’t want to stop her from living her life on her terms. He said he wasn’t going to fight her on the custody arrangement. He suggested they get together and come up with a plan to talk to the kids. He said he wanted her to be happy. He hung up. Lily revealed herself. She apologized for not letting him know she was listening in. He knew she wanted to hear what he was going to say. She admitted that was true. She was glad he’d reined in his urge to protect Victoria. He assured Lily he was committed to her. They hugged, and she thanked him for listening to him and for doing the right thing for them, his kids and Victoria. He thought he should thank her for getting the message through his thick skull. She was riding on a high from the launch last night.

Billy wanted to tell Lily about his conversation with Jill. He promised there was nothing to worry about. Jill was on board with Lily and Billy’s business plans, and she was a fan of his podcast – at least the one in his voice. Lily wasn’t surprised Jill liked the podcast, since Billy was being honest and brave, and people responded to that. Jill had warned Billy that he might be self sabotaging again, though. That made Lily concerned because Jill knew Billy better than anyone. Billy said it wasn’t self sabotage. He wasn’t able to explain just what was going on yet, but the podcast was deeply personal for him, especially The Grinning Soul because it was anonymous. This was something that felt very exciting for him and also very fragile, like he needed to protect it. He asked if that made sense. It didn’t to her, but she thought what mattered was that it made sense to him. He said this journey he was on was invigorating, and he was excited to see where it took him. She was glad about that, but she thought it sounded like he was on a separate path than the one they were planning together. She asked if he was pulling away from her or from Chancellor Winters.

Billy assured Lily that neither was the case. He was excited for her, and he was also excited for his journey. It wasn’t separate from her, it was just his. She was happy he found something he was passionate about. He said he was passionate about her. He thought this was a chance for them to discover new things about themselves and each other. Chelsea walked up and called Billy and Lily the town’s hottest power couple. She congratulated them on the merger and asked Billy how Katie and Johnny were. He said they were good. Lily had to go back to work. Billy followed her and gave her some extra reassurance. She said she loved him and she wanted this for him. They kissed and she left. He returned to Chelsea.

Chelsea was happy Billy and Lily were so in love. She thought they made a beautiful couple. He asked how she was. She said life was good, but he told her that she could be honest with him, since they’d known each other a long time. She asked if he’d ever become friends with the least likely person in the world – someone who had every right to despise you, but instead saw the good in you. That happened to her and Rey. Billy was surprised since Chelsea poisoned Rey. Chelsea said Rey listened to her when she had no one else to turn to, and Connor adored him. She had so much to be thankful for – Connor made her smile every day, and she and Chloe were working on a new line. Chelsea adored Chloe, but lately Chloe had been acting more like a babysitter than a collaborator. Chelsea knew Chloe had the best of intentions, but she wished Chloe wouldn’t worry about her so much. Billy got a text, and he had to go. Chelsea suggested that they could get Johnny and Connor together. Billy was noncommittal. He left.

Nick was walking in the park when he came upon Chelsea, who invited him to join her. He did, and he asked how Sharon was. He said she was doing better than expected. Chelsea assumed something must be happening with his kids then. She said he had this look on his face like there were 20 seconds left in a game and things could go either way. Nick said it was Victoria. Chelsea wasn’t up to date on the Newman gossip, since she and Adam only talked about Connor. She knew Ashland was sick. Nick said Ashland was sick alright, but he faked his cancer. He told her the whole story about Ashland and Victoria. Nick wanted to put Ashland’s head through a wall, but that wouldn’t bring his sister back. Chelsea said that after what Ashland had done to Victoria and Nick’s family, he had every right to want Ashland destroyed.

The text Billy got was from Nikki. He met her at Crimson Lights. Nikki assumed Billy knew where Victoria was, and she wanted him to tell her. Billy said he didn’t know where Victoria was going. Nikki asked how Billy felt about this. He said he hated it, and he was worried about Victoria, the children and anyone who cared about her, including Victor. Billy said he didn’t handle himself very well when Victoria told him she was leaving town. He threatened not to allow the kids to visit Victoria out of state, to protect them. “Oh Billy,” Nikki sighed. Billy realized he was wrong. He said that they both knew Victoria would never endanger the kids. Nikki agreed. Billy said he told Victoria she was an adult capable of living the life she wanted to lead, so he was going to let it go.

Lily was at work with her PR manager, Lori. Lori said there were requests for interviews and speaking engagements with Billy. Lily assumed they wanted to hear from him because he didn’t speak at the launch, but Lori said it because of his podcast. Lori was a big fan. She asked how PR should respond. Lily said it would be fine for Billy to do the interview. When Lori left, Lily looked troubled.

Kyle: Here you go, babe.

Summer: Thank you.

Kyle: Mmm. I missed the iced tea when we were in italy. I mean, how is the iced coffee in milan so good but the iced tea was terrible?

Summer: I don’t know, it’s one of life’s great mysteries.

Kyle: You know, what I miss the most in milan is the street food. Just being able to walk around and get anything anytime — sweet, savory.

[ Chuckles ] Harrison loved that gelato.

Summer: We all loved the gelato.

Kyle: Oh, the guy in the piazza with the fresh and the cart — oh, the best ravioli you’ve ever had for 5 euros.

Summer: You sound hungry.

Kyle: Oh, I wasn’t until i started reminiscing. I guess we’re just gonna have to move back to milan. For the ravioli.

Summer: Don’t even joke about this.

Kyle: [ Chuckles ] I’m sorry.

Summe oh, god, I have been going through all of these text messages and e-mails from my mom trying to find some clue as to how to handle this situation between our mothers.

Kyle: I don’t understand why it’s your responsibility to broker peace between two grown women.

Summer: [ Scoffs ] I wish that I could wash my hands of it, but if history has taught us anything, it’s that my mom and diane would kill each other if given the chance. That’s the pool house burned down back in the day.

Kyle: I’d like to think they’re past that. Well, my mother is anyway.

Summer: Something thwarted the romance between my mom and your dad, and I am not convinced that your mother didn’t have something to do with it.

Kyle: I just think we’re best served if we stay away from their conflict.

Summer: I did what I could for my mother by getting daniel to invite her out of town, which she desperately needed. I mean, just being in the vicinity of diane brings out the absolute worst in her.

And the spa is this way. It was personally designed by our owner phyllis summers for the ultimate in relaxation and rejuvenation. Phyllis is out of town right now, but you can contact me if you have any personal concerns.

Allie: I was so interested in what jabot is doing with nanotechnology and skin care that ashley actually arranged a second visit to the lab for me. I got to shadow the lead researcher.

Jack: Wow. And I’m sure ashley was thrilled to find someone who is interested in that part of the business. I cannot overstate what ashley has done for jabot.

Allie: I mean, ashley is pretty incredible. I’ve done some research on her myself, and I found out she’s the leading fragrance chemist in the industry. She holds all of these patents and was named innovator of the year.

Jack: She’s pretty remarkable, and I think she would be happy to know that you want to be a little more hands-on in the lab. Maybe she could even arrange something, maybe a summer internship.

Allie: Oh, jack, um…I don’t know.

Chelsea: [ Humming ]

Chloe: [ Clears throat ]

Chelsea: [ Humming ]

Chloe: Okay, could you — sorry, it’s just a little distracting.

Chelsea: Oh, sorry. I didn’t even realize I was doing that.

[ Chuckles ] You know, connor said the strangest thing last night. He asked me if I thought they played soccer in heaven. I didn’t even know what to say. I know he’s thinking about rey. He’s just been so distant lately, you know? And I try to get him to talk and he shuts down. I — I think he feels mentioning rey will upset me.

Chloe: You’ll both get through it. You know, you’re doing great, and so is connor, all things considered. I mean, especially since, you know, you’ve had a lot of pressure to get things finalized for the new line. Speaking of which, could I see what you’re working on?

Chelsea: Sure.

Chloe: Um…okay, this is for winter, not this season.

Chelsea: Yeah, I know. I just liked the idea for next year. I didn’t want to let it slip away.

Chloe: You know what is slipping away? Time. We are up against a deadline. You need to get focused. Psoriatic arthritis, made my joints stiff,

Jack: There is no pressure. No, no, this internship was just a suggestion. I’m sure the cosmetics business didn’t even make it onto your radar screen when you were getting your degree in chemical engineering.

Allie: Yeah, that’s true. It really wasn’T.

Jack: So if you told me, “I’m just not interested,” I’d be fine with that. I — I’m sorry I put you in this spot.

Allie: Oh, jack — jack, please do not ever apologize for offering me an incredible opportunity like this. It’s not that I’m not interested.

Jack: So why the hesitation?

Allie: I just don’t think i should be able to jump in front of everyone else. I mean, jabot must be getting hundreds of these applications a year.

Jack: That is very sweet. You would not be taking anyone’s job. Believe me, all of our regular internships have been filled for some time now with younger students, undergraduates.

Allie: Oh. [ Chuckles ]

Jack: Yeah, nancy, the lead researcher you met…

Allie: Yeah?

Jack: …Has almost no connection with those people at all. Her work is too advanced. No, we would be setting up an internship to help her. You’d get a chance to test the waters and there’s no long-term commitment — none.

Allie: I mean, that sounds perfect. But can you give me a little time to think about it?

Jack: Absolutely. You take all the time you want.

Allie: I appreciate this, jack. Thank you for being so thoughtful.

Jack: It is in jabot’s best interest to work with bright young chemists. I also know there’s an emotional element in all this — following in your father’s footsteps. If that aspect is getting in your way, I understand that.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] After all these years, you still don’t understand how the creative mind works.

Chloe: I guess not. Please explain.

Chelsea: It’s a process. I’m not over here just wasting time daydreaming. I’m thinking about the changes i want to make to my designs.

Chloe: I see, and I — I have a process, too, and that involves making sure that we have designs in time so we can get them into production.

Chelsea: I know, and it’s very motivating and respectful. That’s why we work so well together.

Chloe: So how can i respectfully motivate you to work faster?

Chelsea: Chloe, I’m doing the best that I can. I mean, I can’t just flip a switch to finish a design.

Chloe: Okay, but you’re operating at a pace that may necessitate some changes in production.

Chelsea: What do you mean?

Chloe: You know, we’ve missed a couple deadlines, so we’re not gonna be able to get that custom print that you wanted for the separates.

Chelsea: No, that print is essential to my vision.

Chloe: Okay, maybe I could… try to find another manufacturer that can make the print.

Chelsea: No, no, no, no. Too much is riding on this to go with someone new.

Chloe: I get it. Believe me, I get it, because i have been making myself crazy trying to juggle all these moving parts so I could free you up to create beautiful designs.

Chelsea: I’m sorry, but you can’t rush artistic inspiration.

Chloe: Chelsea [Sighs] The logistics of production matter. And if we keep on missing these deadlines, lauren is going to get fed up with us, she’s gonna kick us to the curb, and then all of this hard work will have been for nothing.

Kyle: This will be a moot point by the time phyllis gets back. She’ll have cooled off.

Summer: No one cools off in georgia in june.

Kyle: You know what I mean.

Summer: I know what you mean. I also know what daniel means when he says that mom’s been moody. It means that she’s been stewing over what happened between her and jack. She might even come back more upset.

Kyle: We do not want that.

Summer: No, we don’T. But what about your mom?

Kyle: What do you mean?

Summer: Is there a way that we could get her out of town for a while? I mean, doesn’t she need to go back to la and tie up some loose ends or something?

Kyle: [ Sighs ] I don’t think she’s gonna go for that. She feels like we finally reconnected. She’s getting to spend some time with harrison. She’s even talked about putting roots down in genoa city. She even asked me to help her find a job.

Summer: Really? What — what does she want to do?

Kyle: She mentioned pr. Apparently back in california, she took some classes, but we didn’t get into the details. And I didn’t make any promises. My point is she’s ready to settle down here. Maybe we can get phyllis to hire her at the hotel.

[ Chuckles ] You are not amused by any of my jokes today.

Summer: No, no. That one was worse than the ravioli joke. Kyle, come on. This is serious.

Kyle: I know. But what more can we do? I think we should focus on things we can control. Like finding a new ceo at marchetti. The deal with jabot is about to be finalized, and we need someone in place — the sooner, the better.

Summer: I thought that we found the perfect candidate. Does that mean that you’re taking yourself out of the running?

Kyle: No, no, I’m still considering it. I just… look, I don’t know if I’m the right person for the job.

Summer: But you are. What can I do to convince you? Hi, my name’s steve.

Chelsea: I know the way i work isn’t the most efficient, but I am coming up with some great stuff right now. I’m inspired, and truly, this new line is gonna be so stunning, I don’t think lauren’s gonna care if we’re late for a deadline here and there.

Chloe: You may be coming up with amazing pieces, but here’s the thing. We can’t sell sketches. We need to make the clothes.

Chelsea: Chloe, everything will fall into place, okay? It always does, so I’m just gonna need you to relax and trust that everything will work out.

Chloe: Where have I heard that before?

Chelsea: What did you say?

Chloe: You know what? No, you are totally right. It is not your job to sweat the small details of mass production. That is my job.

Chelsea: Okay. You’re kind of making it sound like I’m irresponsible. Um…I would never let anybody down, certainly not you and certainly not lauren. I just don’t need a rigid structure.

Chloe: I beg to differ, but that is the difference between the two of us. Your brand of genius is brilliant and flashy, whereas when I get it right, nobody should notice. Not even you. And my job is to make sure that nothing will impeded your creative flow.

Chelsea: So you need to babysit me?

Chloe: Yes.

Chelsea: [ Gasps ]

Chloe: No, no, I — I mean, that was obviously a joke. I — my point is, is that I am here to protect you, even if that means being a pain in the butt sometimes.

Chelsea: What do you think i would do without you? Do you think I would completely implode?

Chloe: Of course not. Are you saying that you don’t need my help?

Gloria: Ladies! Oh. Oh, you are getting so ramped up for your bold new adventure. Tension is high, nerves are frayed. You need a spiritual guru. You must be so happy to see me.

Allie: I’ll admit, I have been thinking a lot about dad lately. About how he would feel with me being here in genoa city, getting to know his father’s family.

Jack: Well, I obviously don’t know for sure, but I’d like to think he wouldn’t have had a problem with it.

Allie: Yeah, that’s — that’s what I was thinking, too, and i recently talked to noah about it, and he thinks my dad would be happy for me to be in a place where people cared about me, family, even.

Jack: Well, I’m glad he could reframe it and give you some perspective. That’s a good friend.

Allie: Yeah, yeah, he really is.

[ Chuckles ] You know, I was so nervous when I first came to genoa city, showing up unannounced. But everyone has been so gracious and so warm.

Jack: Well, you had a hand in that. You charmed absolutely everyone you met. I mean that. Ashley, she was very skeptical about you, your motives — now she adores you.

Allie: Ashley is amazing. I mean, so is the rest of the abbotts, and then there’s noah and mariah and tessa, even — even diane, who I get that she used me in the beginning, but she’s been kind of sweet to me lately. Okay, that — that was the wrong thing to say.

Jack: No, no, not at all.

Allie: I know she’s done terrible things to your family, to noah’s family.

Jack: That shouldn’t matter. No, I’m not gonna be dictating how you should feel about diane or anyone else. No, we all have to come to our own conclusions. That includes kyle. And if you find her sweet, well, that’s what’s important, but…

Allie: But what?

Jack: Don’t get too close. You always have to allow for the fact that diane has her own agenda.

Allie: Ah. So you still think she’s up to no good.

Jack: No, I just don’t want anyone to get hurt, especially you. I’m not sure what diane’s ultimate motives are. I will be grateful to her forever for two things — bringing my son into this world and bringing my granddaughter into my life.

Kyle: We have to realize what I’d be giving up if I step down as co-ceo of jabot, and…it’s more than just power or status. You know, I really enjoyed working with my dad.

Summer: I know. You two have grown so much closer.

Kyle: It’s more than just family bonding. I’m showing him I can take the reins if needed.

Summer: But taking over marchetti is not a step down. It’s a big company with a lot of room for growth.

Kyle: Mm. I see your point. Could be another, possibly better, way to show him what I’m capable of. Running a company on my own, demonstrating leadership skills.

Summer: And you wouldn’t have to leave the family business to do that because marchetti is gonna be a part of jabot. It’s the best of both worlds.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] You sound like you’ve made up your mind for me.

Summer: Well, it’s your decision to make, and you got to do what’s right for you.

Kyle: I have to admit, I have been having ideas on how to turn marchetti around. I guess we could just hire someone to implement those ideas, but…nah, what’s the fun in that?

Summer: Does that mean —

Kyle: Yes, I’ll take the job. I’m in.

Summer: [ Chuckles ]

Kyle: [ Laughs ] Oh! I’ll tell my dad when we see him later.

Summer: Oh, my gosh, this — this is amazing. I am so excited.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Kyle: Oh.

Summer: Hey, mom. How’s it going in savannah?

Phyllis: Excellent. Daniel is an incredible host. I’m really enjoying myself.

New densify from crest

pro-health.

Summer: It’s good to hear from you. I feel like it’s been a while since we talked.

Phyllis: I know, I know. Well, that’s on me. Daniel is such a good host. He’s been showing me all the sites here in savannah. So beautiful. Hey, do you know what kudzu is?

Summer: No.

Phyllis: Oh, it’s this beautiful vine that grows everywhere here. It’s so gorgeous. Um, so how is it going at home?

Summer: Things are good. The weather is beautiful.

Phyllis: That’s great. Hey, let me ask you something. Did you take my advice and talk to your husband and get him to send diane packing?

Summer: Mom, I told you that I wasn’t gonna try to change his mind. And there’s no point anyway. Diane is sticking around. She wants to rebuild her relationship with kyle and he wants to give her a chance.

Phyllis: That’s not gonna go well for him or for you. But sometimes people need to learn their lessons on their own.

Summer: Does that mean that you’re now willing to accept diane’s presence here in genoa city and leave the rest of us to make our own decisions where she’s concerned?

Phyllis: I will not get worked up over diane. I will not do it. I won’t do it, summer. Anger is poison. It’s a poison that will eat away at you and kill you if you let it, and I will not do that.

Summer: I would love to believe that.

Phyllis: Then believe it.

Summer: Enough about diane. I have so much to tell you. The deal for marchetti is almost done, and we’re making progress on a ceo.

Phyllis: That’s great. I love to hear that. Um…let’s get together and chat when I get home.

Summer: When will that be, exactly?

Summer: Soon. Very soon.

Chelsea: You’re misunderstanding what you overheard. The new line is gonna be great.

Chloe: Yes, chelsea has come up with some amazing new ideas for the upcoming season.

Gloria: And I can’t wait to see them.

Chloe: You were — you were just in london for their fashion week. How was it?

Gloria: Oh, it was marvelous. I was treated so well. Got so many compliments on how I’m representing jcv. Lauren is thrilled with my team. And we even surpassed the most optimistic projections.

Chloe: Well, that’s great. I’m very happy for you, gloria.

Gloria: Oh, and while I was there, I was able to chat up the new line.

Chloe: Oh, I didn’t ask you to do that.

Gloria: Chloe, we’re family. We do that for each other.

Chloe: I think it’s more of a one-way street. You know, where kevin and I get you out of jams and then you rarely say thanks.

Gloria: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Well, that’s why I’m so happy to be in the position to do you a favor.

Chloe: But you haven’t even seen what we’re working on, so how could you possibly know what to say?

Gloria: Darling, I am gloria. I can hype anything. That’s one of my gifts. I told them that the new line is brilliant and a real game-changer.

Chloe: Well, I suppose that’s vague enough to avoid any inaccuracies. Assuming if we ever finish it.

Gloria: As in — I didn’t quite hear that.

Chelsea: Oh, she said we’re almost done.

Gloria: Ah. [ Laughs ] Oh, justike old times, chelsea. Me, traveling the continent — in fact, the entire world — promoting your new designs.

Chelsea: That sounds like a wonderful experience.

Gloria: Oh, it was, it was, it was. An I spoke to some buyers and critics… who were you so eager to welcome you back to the world of fashion.

Chelsea: That’s so nice to hear.

Gloria: Oh, it was, it was. In fact, next year, we need to go to fashion week together. The fenmore fashionistas.

Chelsea: Yes, I love it. Alert the authorities now so they have 12 months to prepare for us.

[ Laughs ]

Gloria: We will have too much fun.

Chloe: Yeah, well, first we need to get through the launch of our new line.

Gloria: And I don’t think that’s a problem, because you two are brilliant. You have lauren’s support and financial backing, and the best thing — you are so exceedingly lucky to be working with your best friend in the whole wide world. I’d say these are ideal circumstances.

Chelsea: You’d think so, wouldn’t you?

Allie: Jack, whatever i decide about the internship or even staying here in genoa city, I just want you to know how much I appreciate your generosity.

Jack: No.

Aie: No, I’m serious. And it’s not about letting me stay at the house, but rather just you being there for me. When my dad died, I felt very alone. And that feeling’s disappearing more and more every day.

Jack: I’m glad to hear that. And you don’t have to thank me. That is what family does. Look, from the very first day i met you in los angeles, I knew that you were hurting. I didn’t know about your relationship with your mother at all, but I could see that you needed to feel loved, needed to feel a sense of belonging and purpose of place. I didn’t want to push because, of course, I did that with your father.

Allie: You got the balance exactly right.

Diane: Hello, you two. Oh, I’m sorry, is this — is this a bad time? Is everything alright?

Allie: No, everything’s wonderful, diane. You know what? I’m actually late to go meet noah at the park.

Jack: Okay, well, tell noah i said hello and thank him for giving you good advice.

Allie: I will. Great to see you, diane.

Diane: You too, allie. Hmm. Noah again? They seem to be spending a lot of time together.

Jack: Yes, they do seem to be hitting it off.

Diane: Good for her. She’s a special young woman. She seems to be fitting in here really well.

Jack: Better than you?

Diane: [ Chuckles ] Well, that wouldn’t take much.

Jack: Go ahead, say it. You want to say it. All of this wouldn’t be happening to allie if it hadn’t been for you. That’s where you’re going with this, isn’t it?

Diane: There aren’t a lot of positive things I can take credit for. Let me have that. Please? [ Chuckles ] May I?

Jack: Yeah, go ahead. What can I du with less asthma?

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Summer: Thank you for coming by.

Lauren: Well, of course. I heard the marchetti deal is almost wrapped up.

Kyle: Oh, the legal department’s taking their time.

Lauren: Oh, and after being married to a lawyer as long as i have, I can tell you, they will not be rushed.

Summer: [ Chuckles ]

Lauren: Okay, so I’m excited to hear about this possible collaboration between marchetti and fenmore’S. I’ve been curious since you mentioned it a couple weeks ago.

Kyle: Couldn’t be more specific at the time. I had to wait until the terms of the deal were finalized.

Lauren: I’m excited to hear. Go on ahead.

Kyle: Go ahead, summer.

Summer: We would like for fenmore’s to be the exclusive carrier for marchetti in the us.

Lauren: Wow. Wow. That would be great for both brands, and, of course, I love it because I trust your creative vision.

Summer: Thank you. That means so much to me, coming from you, lauren.

Lauren: But I do have questions.

Summer: Like?

Lauren: Like I heard that angelina marchetti is looking to retire. And if she does step down, who is gonna fill those very classy shoes? Do you have a designer lined up?

Summer: Not yet, but we have ideas.

Kyle: That’s something else we wanted to talk to you about.

Summer: The person that we have in mind, I think she would be very excited by the opportunity, but we wanted to run it by you first.

Lauren: I’m intrigued. Who do you have in mind?

Summer: Chelsea lawson.

Chloe: Truth be told, there has actually been some friction between the two best friends in the whole world.

Chelsea: But it’s just the pressure getting to us. We’re working through it.

Chloe: We’ve gotten through worse.

Gloria: Of course you have. Your friendship has weathered the test of time. Listen, I have run so many different businesses — some of them successful, some of them ruined by my partner’s lack of vision. But the way I see it, the secret to success is simple. You hire the people who are the best for the job, and then you get out of their way.

Chelsea: Agreed. It all comes down to trust.

Gloria: Ooh. Yes, kind of like a symphony orchestra. Everybody has their roles to play. They play their parts beautifully. I mean, the bassoonist is never gonna play the piccolo. The violinist will never blow the french horn. Everyone brings their own talents to the table, and then they make beautiful music together.

Chloe: As long as they’re paying attention to the conductor. Otherwise, it’s just noise.

Chelsea: You see yourself as the conductor?

Chloe: Well, someone has to make sure that things are running the way they’re supposed to.

Chelsea: And what am I in this scenario, the noise?

Chloe: Well, without me, you can’t make the beautiful music.

Chelsea: You want to bet?

Gloria: Oh, ladies, ladies, ladies, shh. This will not do.

Diane: I got to see harrison in the park today. I swear he is growing day-by-day. I think I need to carry a tape measure around with me.

Jack: I probably don’t notice as much as I used to, now that I see him every day. I mean, it used to be I’d go to italy every couple of months, and I would see giant changes.

Diane: I’m sure you love that they’re going to stay here in genoa city.

Jack: I do.

Diane: So be honest, is that why you’re purchasing marchetti?

Jack: No, there are plenty of good reasons for acquiring that company, business-wise, but this is a fringe benefit.

Diane: Hmm. I really enjoyed my time in milan, and I would’ve been willing to move back there if kyle wanted me to, but, hmm, I’m kind of glad it didn’t come to that.

Jack: Really? I think you would be relieved to get away from all of the resentment you’ve been dealing with here.

Diane: Oh, it isn’t that bad.

[ Sighs ] Okay, it’s — it’s been that bad.

Jack: Yeah.

Diane: But I’m hoping that people are going to stop lashing out or clinging to their old view of me. Maybe over time, even…those I’ve wronged the most will be willing to see that I’ve changed or at least admit that it’s possible. Is it too soon to put you in that category?

Jack: I’m trying to forget the past and believe in the future, for you and kyle.

Diane: Well, thank you for that. That’s what I would expect from jack abbott.

[ Chuckles ] It’s a tiny, little club you’ve joined of people that I’ve maybe somewhat won over, but I’m going to try to keep adding new members. Although I know there are some people I’m never going to be able to recruit, such as phyllis.

Jack: I think the best option is to avoid her altogether. Pretend you live in separate universes. Age-related macular degeneration may lead to severe vision loss.

Gloria: I have a very special place in my heart for both of you. That is why you need to listen to what I’m about to say. Now, first of all, I know how you feel about me. You think I’m a daffy gadfly who flits from here to there, pestering everybody I meet.

Chloe: No, gloria —

Gloria: Yes, please. You think I’m the crazy, wacky mother-in-law who just pops up for your own personal comic relief. But I’m gonna tell you who i really I’M. I’m a survivor. I’ve been doing this a long time, and people always underestimate me. But I’m still here because i know what works and I know what has value. And from where I’m sitting, what I see, you two have value as a team. Both equally brilliant. You, the designer. You, making the trains run on time. But you have got to harness this negativity I’m picking up on and turn it into some positive energy that will send you both rocketing to new heights.

Chloe: It’s good advice.

Chelsea: Yeah, we’ll — we’ll take that to heart.

Gloria: Good. I suggest you do. Stay strong. Stay smart. Stay together. Ah, and I think my work is done here, so I will see you back at the office. Ta-ta. Ooh, thank you so much.

Lauren: So you want chelsea to design for you?

Summer: That’s right.

Kyle: We know she has a deal with you for her new line.

Summer: And if she signs with us, that deal stays in place. The only thing that would change is the branding.

Lauren: So it would be chelsea lawson for marchetti.

Kyle: The advantages for both companies would be that marchetti gets a line that’s ready to launch, and it’s up to your high standards.

Lauren: Okay, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. I have seen the preliminary sketches that’s chelsea’s been working on, and it would have to be a very different sensibility for marchetti, because what I’m looking at is very modern and american.

Summer: Well, we would tweak the designs as necessary to fit what marchetti customers have come to expect.

Lauren: Let me be clear — the sketches that I’m seeing i really like and I think that they could sell, and I don’t want to lose that.

Kyle: Well, maybe you wouldn’t have to. Chelsea could pull double duty, assuming she can handle the workload.

Summer: I don’t think that that should be a problem. I mean, chelsea is an absolute force, and it would be a win-win for her. She gets to launch her own brand, but then she and fenmore’s gets access to marchetti’s loyal customer base and brand recognition.

Lauren: I mean, she does have chloe to help with logistics, and as long as chelsea doesn’t get burned out.

Kyle: Not to mention summer’s expertise, and fenmore’s can hand off some of the financial risk.

Lauren: But what about the search for the new ceo? I mean, that is the missing puzzle piece. I would want whoever is coming in to be on board.

Summer: Of course.

Kyle: I think whoever takes the position would be very excited about this partnership. That won’t be a problem.

Lauren: Alright. Well, then let’s pursue this. Presuming that chelsea’s agreeable.

Summer: That is so good to hear.

Kyle: This is going to be a very exciting partnership.

Lauren: I agree.

Kyle: As much as I would like to keep discussing this — and we will soon — I need to go pick up harrison from his playdate with christian.

Lauren: Aww, give him a squeeze for me, will you?

Kyle: I will. I’ll be back before you know it.

Lauren: He seems happier than the last time I saw him. Now, what about your mom? Any news from her?

Summer: We spoke briefly earlier today. She seems like she’s having a good time, and she says that she’s now ready to let go of all of her anger towards diane.

Lauren: [ Chuckles ] But you don’t believe her.

Summer: Not a word.

Diane: Believe me, I would love to stay away from phyllis, but our son is married to her daughter.

Recap written by Christine

At the Abbott house, Kyle brought Summer iced tea. He’d missed iced tea in Milan, but now that he was in the US, he missed the street food in Italy. He joked that they should go back, but she didn’t think it was funny. She brought up their mothers again and her desire to keep the peace between them. Kyle didn’t think it was Summer’s job to keep the peace between two grown women. Summer said that Diane and Phyllis would kill each other if given the chance – that was how the Abbott pool house burned down. Kyle liked to think their moms were past that – his mom was anyway. Summer had a theory that Diane had something to do with the end of Jack and Phyllis’s romance. Kyle thought he and Summer should just stay out of it. Summer said she did what she could by getting Daniel to invite Phyllis out of town.

Kyle suggested that Phyllis would have cooled off at Daniel’s. Summer quipped that no one cooled of in Georgia in June. According to Summer, Daniel said that Phyllis had been moody and stewing over what happened between her and Jack. Summer wondered if they could get Diane out of town for awhile. Kyle didn’t think Diane would go for that – she wanted to put roots down and she even asked him to find her a job in PR. Kyle didn’t make any promises to Diane, but he said he thought Diane was ready to settle down. He joked that Phyllis could hire Diane, then he noted that Summer wasn’t amused by any of his jokes today.

Kyle shifted gears and said they had to find a new CEO for Marchetti, since the sale was almost finalized. Summer thought Kyle should do it. He was still considering it, but he wasn’t sure he was the right person for the job. She wrapped her arms around his waist and asked how she could convince him. Kyle said if he stepped down as co-CEO, he’d be giving up more than power or status – he enjoyed working with his dad. She said that taking over at Marchetti wasn’t a step down, and there was room for growth. He considered that running Marchetti could be a way to show Jack what he was capable of. Summer said Kyle had to do what was right for him. Kyle thought about it and decided to take the job. They kissed.

Phyllis came into the Grand Phoenix in a huge floppy hat that drooped down to her chin. She ducked around corners to make sure no one saw her, and once the coast was clear, she got in the elevator. When she got to her suite, she called Summer. Phyllis lead Summer to believe she was still in Savannah, Georgia. Phyllis asked if Summer convinced Kyle to send Diane packing. Summer said she wasn’t going to do that – Kyle wanted to give Diane a chance. Phyllis didn’t think it would go well, but she said some people had to learn lessons on their own. Summer asked if that meant Phyllis would let everyone else make their own decisions about Diane. Phyllis said she wouldn’t get worked up about Diane anymore, because anger was poison. Summer said she’d love to believe that. Summer told Phyllis about the Marchetti deal. Phyllis suggested they discuss it when she got home, which would be very soon.

Lauren went to the Abbott house to talk with Summer and Kyle. Summer revealed they wanted Fenmore’s to be the exclusive carrier for Marchetti in the US. Lauren said that would be great for both companies, but she heard Angelina wanted to retire. She asked if they had a new designer lined up. Summer asked what Lauren thought of offering Chelsea the job.

Kyle and Summer knew Chelsea had a deal with Lauren already. Summer said if Chelsea came to work for them, the deal with Lauren would stay in place – the only thing that would change was the branding. Lauren noted that the branding would be Chelsea Lawson for Marchetti. Lauren had seen the sketches Chelsea was working on, and they were very modern and American. Summer said they’d tweak the designs as necessary, to fit Marchetti’s audience. Lauren said she liked the designs as they were, and she didn’t want to lose them. Kyle suggested that Chelsea could pull double duty, assuming she could handle the workload. Summer didn’t think that would be a problem, since Chelsea was a force. Lauren said Chelsea would have Chloe to work with logistics, so things would be okay as long as Chelsea didn’t get burned out. Lauren asked what about the new CEO. Kyle said whoever came on board would be excited about this new partnership. Lauren agreed to this as long as Chelsea was on board. Kyle went to get Harrison, who was playing with Christian.

Lauren asked if Summer heard from Phyllis. Summer repeated what Phyllis said. Summer didn’t believe Phyllis was ready to let go of her anger toward Diane. Summer wasn’t sure what to do. She couldn’t keep her mom out of town forever, and she didn’t want to. Lauren suggested that Summer enlist Diane’s help. Lauren didn’t trust Diane, but it seemed that she came back to town to make peace with her enemies even if it was just for Kyle’s benefit. Lauren suggested that Phyllis would calm down if Diane apologized to her. Summer thought Lauren could be on to something.

Allie told Jack that Ashley arranged for her to tour the lab a second time. Allie had read up on Ashley’s accomplishments in business, and she was really impressed. Jack praised his sister and suggested that she might be able to get Allie a summer internship. Allie wasn’t sure. Jack understood, and he was sorry for putting her on the spot. She didn’t want him apologizing for offering her a great opportunity. She just didn’t think it was fair for her to jump in line ahead of all the applicants there must be for that internship. He grinned and said she was sweet, but she wouldn’t be taking anyone’s job. He said they’d set up an internship especially for her with the lead researcher. She loved the idea, but she needed a little time to think about it. He thought it would be in Jabot’s best interest to work with bright young chemists. He also understood if she wasn’t emotionally interested in following in her father’s footsteps.

Allie had been thinking about how Keemo would feel about her getting to know his father’s family. Jack liked to think Keemo wouldn’t mind. That was what Allie was thinking too. Allie said Noah thought that Keemo would be happy Allie was around family. Jack thought Noah sounded like a good friend. Allie agreed. She was so nervous when she showed up in Genoa City, but everyone had been so gracious. Jack said Allie charmed everyone she met. He said Ashley had been skeptical of Allie’s motives, and now she adored Allie. Allie thought all the Abbotts were amazing. She liked Noah, Mariah and Tessa, and even Diane had been kind of sweet. Allie knew Diane did terrible things to the Abbotts and Newmans. Jack said he wouldn’t dictate how Allie felt about anyone, but he warned her not to get too close to Diane. He wasn’t sure what Diane’s motives were, but he’d always be grateful she brought his son into the world and brought his granddaughter into his life.

Allie appreciated Jack’s generosity. When her dad died she felt very alone and that feeling disappeared more every day. Jack said she didn’t have to thank him – family was there for each other. When they first met, he could see she was hurting and that she needed to feel loved and a sense of belonging. He didn’t want to push her like he did with her dad. Allie told Jack that he got the balance right with her. Diane walked in on the warm moment between Jack and Allie. Allie had a meeting with Noah, and she left.

Diane and Jack noted that Noah and Allie seemed to be hitting it off. Jack knew Diane was dying to take credit for the good things happening to Allie. Diane felt that she should be free to do so, since there weren’t a lot of positive things she could take credit for. She asked to sit with him, and he let her. She got to see Harrison today, and he was getting so big. Jack said he didn’t notice as much now that he saw Harrison every day. Diane asked if Jack purchased Marchetti to keep Kyle and his family in town. He said there were lot of good business reasons for buying the company, but this was a fringe benefit. She enjoyed living in Milan, and she would’ve gone back if Kyle wanted her to, but she was glad it didn’t come to that. Jack thought Diane would’ve been happy to get away from all the resentment she was dealing with here. She was hoping that over time, people would be willing to see that she’d changed. She asked if it was too soon to put him in that category. He said he was trying to forget the past and believe in the future, for her and Kyle. She thanked him. She said he’d joined a tiny club of people she’d somewhat won over, and she was going to try and keep adding new members. She knew she’d never be able to win Phyllis over. He suggested she stay away from Phyllis altogether. Phyllis, and her massive hat, walked in and she hurried out to the patio when she saw Jack and Diane.

Diane said she’d love to stay away from Phyllis, but their kids were married, so their paths would cross. Phyllis was eavesdropping from the patio. Jack said that Diane didn’t have to seek Phyllis out or provoke her. Diane hoped Jack didn’t blame her for what happened between him and Phyllis. He was exasperated that they kept getting on this subject after he’d told her he didn’t want to talk to her about Phyllis. Diane promised to drop the subject forever, but she had one question – was he hoping to work things out with Phyllis? He said no – that ship had sailed. Diane never intended to cause problems between Jack and Phyllis. However, Diane was relieved Jack wasn’t going to get back together with Phyllis. “Quite simply, you deserve better than Phyllis,” Diane said. Phyllis heard every word.

At Society, Chelsea’s humming bothered Chloe. Chelsea apologized. Chelsea said Connor asked if there was soccer in heaven. She knew he was thinking about Rey. Her son had been so distant lately. She thought he felt like mentioning Rey would upset her. Chloe was optimistic it’d all work out. She shifted gears and asked what Chelsea was working on. Chelsea handed over a sketch, and it was for a winter outfit, but they needed something for summer. Chloe scolded Chelsea for wasting time when they were up against a deadline.

Chelsea felt like, after all this time, Chloe didn’t understand how the creative mind worked. Chloe recognized Chelsea’s point, but as the person responsible for the logistics, she needed Chelsea to work faster. Chloe said they already missed a couple deadlines, so they couldn’t get that custom print Chelsea wanted. Chelsea didn’t want to compromise on that. They debated about the logistics of production vs. artistic inspiration. Chloe said that if they kept missing deadlines, Lauren would get fed up and kick them to the curb.

Chelsea knew the way she worked wasn’t the most efficient, but the stuff she was coming up with was so brilliant that Lauren wouldn’t care about a missed deadline here or there. Chloe said they couldn’t sell sketches – they needed to make the clothes. Chelsea said everything would work out. “Where have I heard that before?,” Chloe grumbled under her breath. Chloe conceded that it was her job to sweat the details of mass production, not Chelsea’s. Chelsea said she’d never let Chloe or Lauren down, but she didn’t need a rigid schedule. Chloe said it was her job to make sure nothing impeded Chelsea’s creative genius. “So you need to babysit me?,” Chelsea testily asked. Chloe said yes. Chloe was just joking. Chloe said she was here to protect Chelsea, even if that meant being a pain in the butt. “Do you think I would completely implode [without you?],?” Chelsea asked. Chloe said of course not. Chloe asked if Chelsea was saying she didn’t need Chloe’s help. Gloria walked in, putting an end to the argument.

Chloe and Chelsea pretended they weren’t fighting, even though Gloria had heard them. Chloe shifted gears and asked how fashion week in London was. It went well, and Gloria got a lot of compliments about how she was representing JCV, which thrilled Lauren. Gloria said she chatted up the new line while she was in London. Chloe said she didn’t ask Gloria to do that. Gloria said family helped each other. Chloe thought that usually, she and Kevin got Gloria out jams, and Gloria rarely said thanks. Gloria was happy she had the chance to do Chloe a favor. She’d told everyone that the new line was brilliant. Chloe supposed that was vague enough to avoid any inaccuracies. Gloria said so many people in London were excited Chelsea was back in the world of fashion. Gloria said Chelsea and Chloe were lucky to be working with their best friend.

Chloe admitted there had been some friction between her and Chelsea. Chelsea said it was just the pressure getting to them. Chloe said they’d gotten through worse. Gloria said she’d run so many different businesses, some successful, some ruined b her partner’s lack of vision. She thought that to be successful you hire the person best for the job and then get out of their way. Chelsea agreed and pointedly said it all came down to trust. Gloria said it was like an orchestra – everyone brought their own talents to the table and then they made beautiful music together. Chloe said that would work as long as everyone paid attention to the conductor.

Chloe and Chelsea bickered because Chloe saw herself as the conductor in this partnership. Chelsea scoffed at the idea that she couldn’t make beautiful music without Chloe. Gloria had a special place in her heart for Chloe and Chelsea, so she wanted them to listen to her. Gloria knew they thought of her as a daffy gadfly who pestered everyone she met. They denied it. Gloria said she was a survivor who’d been doing this a long time, and people always underestimated her but she was till here because she knew what worked and she knew what had value. She thought Chloe and Chelsea had value as a team. She urged them to harness the negativity and turn it into positive energy that would send them rocketing to new heights. What she said resonated with the pair. Gloria left.

Chloe got a response from the guy at the factory, who said he thought they could get an extension on the deadline. Chelsea felt that meant she was right all along when she said there was nothing to worry about. Chloe said they couldn’t let the deadline slip too far, because they didn’t want Lauren to get mad. Chelsea showed Chloe a summer sketch, and Chloe was happy with it. Chelsea and Chloe agreed that Gloria gave good advice, but they vowed not to get put in the position where they’d need to be counseled by Gloria again.

Young & The Restless Update

Recap written by Christine

When Billy met Jill at Society, he was in a bad mood, and she wanted to know why he was so disgruntled the morning after the successful launch party. He said he got some disturbing news from Victoria. He promised Lily he wouldn’t let it affect the big night, and he didn’t, but he was having a hard time letting it go. He said Victoria was starting over with Ashland and leaving her old life behind. Jill wasn’t up to date on the details, so Billy told her that Ashland faked cancer to deceive Victoria into marrying him so he could steal Newman Locke. Jill was shocked and disgusted. He said that Victoria expected him to let her take the kids to live with her and Ashland to wherever they were going. Victoria wasn’t telling him, so that Victor couldn’t interfere. Jill said this was Victoria’s life. “This is no longer your battle to fight,” Jill contended, and Billy groaned that she sounded like Lily. He said this would directly affect his kids. Jill recalled Billy using that same excuse when he got involved with Jesse Gaines. Jill said there was no way Victoria would endanger her kids. Jill told her son that she’d never forgive him if he messed things up with Lily.

Billy had expected Jill to be more supportive, since she was his mom. She said she wasn’t going to mindlessly support him. She asked how he felt about the changes at the company. He asked how she was feeling about the end of the era, given that she ran Chancellor by herself for a long time. Jill said that Lily was doing a fantastic job. Billy said he couldn’t be more proud of Lily. Jill said Lily was expanding Katherine and Neil’s visions. Billy reiterated that he was proud of Lily’s merger. He thought it was more impressive than what Victoria did with Newman Locke, and Lily didn’t need to con anyone to get it done. Jill didn’t want to discuss that again. Billy said he wouldn’t screw things up with Lily, and he was 100% on board with Chancellor Winters and he was focused on being the best COO he could be. Jill believed Billy meant that, but she could tell he was unhappy, and she wanted to know why. He swore her to secrecy.

Billy thought watching Lily work with her family was beautiful, but there was a disconnect for him, like something was missing. He wasn’t sure why. He felt restless, like there was something big out there for him, but he didn’t know what it was or where it would come from. He was trying hard not to let it get to him. Jill didn’t want Billy to get mad, but she wondered if he was self sabotaging again. Jill was relieved when Billy assured her he wasn’t self sabotaging. He said he was trying to find his place in the world and it was exciting. Jill understood that. She’d binged his podcast, and she was so proud of Billy digging deep and then sharing things with the world. She was scared though because he was ripping off old wounds and that could be dangerous for someone like him. He knew that she meant a recovering addict like him. He promised the podcasts were cathartic and helpful.

Devon and Nate visited Lily in her office. Chancellor Winters’ first business day was now underway. Lily was excited to be working down the hall from Nate and Devon. She oversaw the design of their offices, and she hoped they liked the design. Devon joked with Lily that he didn’t like the office, and she was alarmed until he admitted he was teasing her. Nate loved the sweeping views of the city from his office. Lily told Nate that the press loved him. Imani walked in and agreed, saying everyone was talking about the sexy sophisticated addition to the executive suite. Lily didn’t see anyone calling Nate sexy. Imani said Lily must be focusing on the stuffy press that PR sent over. The gossip sites were definitely using the s word for Nate. Nate looked flustered.

Nate hoped Devon and Lily weren’t upset he revealed more about their plans than they wanted him to. Devon said what mattered is that it all worked out. Lily said Nate followed his gut. Imani had found, personally and professionally, that sometimes following instinct was better than playing it safe. Nate just hoped he didn’t step on any toes. Devon said Nate did step on toes, but it was a bump in the road, and hopefully that wouldn’t be an ongoing thing. Nate appreciated Devon being gracious. Lily started a work meeting. She thought that they could raise the advertising rates, based on their pre-subscription numbers. Devon guessed they could thank Nate for that, since he detailed the roll out. Lily thought Devon’s team did a great job with the promos and developing the podcast. She thought that they could all take credit for the success.

Imani found Nate at Crimson Lights. He said if he didn’t know any better, he’d think she followed him. She admitted she did. She wanted to make sure that she didn’t get him in trouble by pushing him to be himself at the launch. He said he acted on his own, and he didn’t regret it. She said she’d take credit for his success, since the speech raised his visibility. He didn’t see that as a plus, because he didn’t want to overshadow Lily and Devon. He also didn’t like the comment Imani made about playing it safe vs. going with your gut, because he thought it seemed like a veiled dig at Devon. Imani said she wasn’t going to stifle her opinions. Nate was pretty sure Devon wasn’t happy with what he did. Imani hoped Nate didn’t let Devon discourage him.

Nate said Devon was his cousin – they had a long history, and sometimes they were rivals and sometimes they were best friends. He told Imani not to worry about him having a little competition. Imani said she wasn’t worried, she was just observing the dynamic. She was impressed by his business instinct and she’d hate to see his spirit squashed. He appreciated her support. She thought they should look out for each other. She said they were both new in this arena. She was concerned she was getting held back by being under her sister’s watchful eye, and she thought the same thing might be happening with Devon and Nate. Nate didn’t think so. She wasn’t saying Devon was consciously doing this. She had to go, but she told him to think about what she said.

Billy met Lily at work. She hoped Jill was excited about everything. Billy said Jill was very excited, and she made it clear that he’d better not screw things up with the star CEO. Lily asked why Jill would say that. At first, Billy said it was just a joke, but then he told Lily that he didn’t want to keep secrets from her. She asked if she should be worried, but before they could talk, she got called away to do an interview and photo shoot. Before she left, he assured her that things were fine.

Amanda ran into Summer at The Grand Phoenix and asked if she was okay. Summer griped about getting evasive text messages from her mom. Amanda knew the feeling – Phyllis wasn’t giving her a straight answer about how long she’d be out of town either. Summer said Phyllis was pulling the same stuff with Daniel. Summer said Phyllis had been moody with Daniel, and it had gotten to the point where he and his daughter, Lucy were walking on eggshells around Phyllis. That was odd because Phyllis loved Lucy.

Summer thought something happened between Phyllis and Jack. She asked if Amanda knew anything. Amanda just knew Phyllis and Jack had a disagreement. Summer asked if it involved Diane. She said Phyllis asked her to tell Kyle to reject Diane. Summer didn’t do that because Kyle’s relationship with Diane was his own decision. Amanda wondered if this had something to do with Phyllis’s sudden trip out of town. Summer said she reached out to Daniel and persuaded him to invite Phyllis for a visit. Summer had been afraid Diane and Phyllis were headed for a major showdown.

Amanda thought that Summer’s idea to cool things down between Diane and Phyllis was a good idea. Summer was sure she was just postponing the inevitable. Amanda promised to corner Phyllis when she got back and try to get her to open up. Summer wanted to put together a team to save Phyllis from herself and keep things between Phyllis and Diane from escalating into a war. Amanda agreed to join forces.

Kyle and Diane hung out at the park and watched Harrison feed the birds. Diane was appreciative that Kyle invited her. She said she tossed and turned last night after a bad dream. He was interested in hearing about the dream. She said she dreamed that the deal to purchase Marchetti fell through, and Kyle, Summer and Harrison moved. He assured her that the deal was on track. Diane asked Kyle to help her find a job in Genoa City. He said he didn’t have many connections in the real estate biz. Diane said she wasn’t trying to take advantage – it was the opposite – if he kept wanting her to stay, he couldn’t keep supporting her. He said it wasn’t a problem. She said she needed to pay her own way, and she needed a career. He asked how long it would take her to get her real estate license. She said real estate wasn’t a passion, like architecture. He thought she should pursue that again, but she didn’t think she would be able to get back into the game after being out of the field for so long.

Kyle guessed it must be hard giving up on a dream you once had. Diane said life went on. Diane said seeing Kyle and Summer working together and being at the launch party for Chancellor Winters and being around people so motivated made her realize it was time to embrace life in Genoa City. Back in LA, she took classes on communication, working toward a certificate in PR, and she loved it. She always admired the way publicists handled difficult situations and personalities, such as herself. He said like back in her modeling days. Laughing, she admitted she was a terror back then. He guessed this was the part where he was supposed to try and agree while keeping a straight face. They laughed.

Diane realized that PR was all about reinvention, and she knew she would excel at that. Kyle said there were obvious issues with getting Diane a job at Jabot. Diane understood. She said that she wasn’t expecting to be handed a job. She was sure she’d be an asset to any firm that hired her, and it didn’t have to be Jabot. She said he knew so many people in town, and she thought he might hear about a position that would fit for her. He said he’d give it some thought. Diane intended to earn the respect of as many people as she could, if only to make Kyle and Harrison proud. Kyle thought it was impressive that Diane wanted to pursue a career, and he said he’d keep his ear to the ground.

On the patio of Crimson Lights, Michael marveled to Lauren that they were in the same room together. He said it was such a rare occurrence because she had such a busy career, while he was working normal hours for Victor. She countered that he knew where she was, and she wasn’t locked up in Peru. Nikki showed up. Lauren heard about Victoria and Ashland leaving. She thought Nikki and Victor must be devastated. Nikki admitted it had been very difficult. Nikki was glad she ran into Michael, because she intended to direct all her anger and rage at Diane, and he was just the person to help her.

Nikki wanted Michael to look into Diane’s activities in LA. Nikki was sure there must be something that would show Diane returned with evil intentions. Lauren said Michael was probably the worst person for this job, since he was one of the few people in town who wasn’t horrified Diane was back in town. According to Lauren, Michael called her when he saw Diane for the first time, and now they were palling around together. Nikki looked appalled. Lauren got a text from Summer about work, so she got up to leave. Michael pointed out that Lauren was cutting their date short for work.

Now that Nikki and Michael were alone, she expressed her displeasure about him being friends with Diane. She told him to do something about Diane, and quickly. He didn’t know what he could do to help. She suggested investigating to figure out how Diane was able to live under an alias all these years, whether she paid taxes, did she use a fake social security number? Michael said Nikki should look into getting her own PI license. Nikki said Michael was on a handsome retainer for the Newmans. Michael said even if he found something, he had no standing to bring charges against Diane for something that happened in California – he wasn’t in law enforcement there or in Genoa City, plus tax fraud was a federal crime. Nikki was angry. She said he was willing to risk his life to bring Ashland down, so why the hell was he protecting Diane?

Nikki asked Michael whose side he was on. Michael said he was neutral, but Nikki snapped that he was trying to protect Diane. He said years ago, everyone in this town wanted Diane to get the hell out of town, and they got their wish and no one was wrongfully convicted for her death. He said Diane lived alone, missing her son. Michael thought Diane paid for her crimes. Nikki didn’t agree. She didn’t think relocating to sunny LA was a proper punishment. She said even Jack had softened his stance, and it boggled the mind. Nikki refused to let Diane wreak havoc. Michael wondered if Nikki would be okay with Diane if she’d succeeded at getting rid of Ashland. Nikki said one had nothing to do with the other – Diane’s crimes were worthy of their own vitriol. Michael grudgingly agreed to do a deep dive into Diane’s time away if only to prove Diane had changed. Nikki asked what if Michael uncovered something – would he hide it or would he let Diane get what she deserved?

Lauren was surprised to meet with both Summer and Amanda. She’d assumed this was about work. Summer explained that it was about Phyllis. Summer and Amanda brought Lauren up to speed. As someone who had been there for the original battles between Diane and Phyllis, Lauren couldn’t imagine Phyllis would ever cool down where Diane was concerned. Summer explained that she wanted to get people to team up and keep the peace. Lauren had been keeping tabs on Diane since she returned, and Diane had been igniting fires everywhere, including with Nikki.

Amanda suggested that things might get too hot in Genoa City for Diane, and she’d leave before Phyllis got home. Summer wanted to create peace for everyone, not drive Diane away from Kyle, unless it became absolutely necessary. Lauren thought it was noble of Summer to consider Kyle’s feelings. Summer said she loved Kyle. Lauren said Michael had an inexplicable soft spot for Diane. Lauren thought the town would be better without Diane in it. She also thought that Summer might have to create some distance between Kyle and his mom.

Summer went home to Kyle and told him that Nikki was also trying to push Diane out of town. Kyle didn’t want Summer to get in the middle of this, and he didn’t want to deal with it either. He said his mom was doing her best to turn things around. He wished everyone would back off and give Diane breathing room. Summer said it was easier said than done, since it seemed like everyone they knew had history with Diane and strong opinions to match.

Ashley: But we know we’ve been bombarding you with a lot of questions about you and your life and everything.

Traci: So, we decided you needed a little time to find out about our lives, if you’re curious.

Allie: Oh, I am, for sure. You know, it’s really nice that you guys finish each other’s sentences.

Ashley: Do we do that?

Traci: I —

Ashley: We can’t help it. We’ve known each other for a long time.

Traci: [ Laughs ]

Allie: It’s obvious you guys are super close.

Traci: We’ve had our moments.

Ashley: Just a few, yeah.

Traci: But we are sisters and friends forever.

Ashley: That’s right. And you are incredibly polite, which is such a nice quality. But there’s no such thing as overstepping when it comes to family. So, please, ask anything you want. Our lives are open books.

*************************

Ashley: Oh, be quiet. She could have been a very successful singer.

Allie: Wait, you sing?

Ashley: Yes.

Traci: In the shower. No, every now and then with the family.

Ashley: Okay, listen. I remember back in the day there was this very famous singer — Danny Romalotti.

Traci: Yeah. And we became close. In many ways, he actually saved me. At first, I was his fan club president, and then he found out I could sing, so he asked me to sing in concerts with him, and he was such a sweetheart and very cute. He still is.

[Laughs] Danny? Wh-why are you staring at me like that?

Danny: Oh, I’m sorry, I was, uh…I was just thinking how lucky I am that we met and had a chance to become such good friends.

Traci: [Chuckles] Well, I think about that every day, Danny. Every day of my life. So, as exciting as my time was as a singer, I eventually found out my real passion was for writing. And it has been so meaningful to be able to experience success doing something I love.

Recap written by Christine

Ashley and Traci met at Society. they were going to have a girls day with their grandniece. They hoped Allie would move to Genoa City for good. They talked about Allie’s circumstances – her father was dead, and she was estranged from her mother. Traci and Ashley both knew what it was like to be estranged from your mom at an early age. Ashley thought it was tragic that Keemo didn’t reconcile with Jack before he died. Traci said the situation wasn’t the same, but it made her remember what it was like when she was in boarding school after Dina abandoned them. Traci had been nervous but glad she had her dad’s support. There was a flashback to young Traci and John. She said she wasn’t the perfect little girl for the president of Jabot Cosmetics to want to show off. John was emphatic that Traci was special and lovely, and he’d be proud to show her off to anyone. She said she was proud to be his daughter, and they hugged. Ashley shared her own memory too. Ashley was graduating with honors, but she didn’t tell her father about her accomplishment. She said she wanted him to come to her graduation for her, not for her grades. John was very proud. He said she could do anything, and she didn’t have to prove a thing to him. On the contrary, she felt that she had a lot to prove.

Ashley had gotten past her concerns about Allie. She thought it was important that they honor Jack and John by making Allie feel like she’d been part of the family from the beginning. Abby walked up and said she had the chef make a special menu for today. Allie arrived and hugged Abby. Abby said to let her know if they needed anything. She departed. Allie talked to her aunts, who explained that they thought she might want to ask them some questions about their lives. As they chatted, Allie noticed that the sisters finished each other’s sentences, and she thought that was nice. She said it was obvious they were close. Traci and Ashley agreed that they’d had their moments, but they’d always be sisters and friends. Ashley assured Allie that she couldn’t overstep when it came to family, so she could ask anything.

Traci and Ashley shared that Traci wrote a book on the Abbotts. Traci was going to get Allie a copy, but she thought it best for Allie to hear some of the stories in person first because some of them were a lot to take in. allie wasn’t sure where to start. Ashley suggested they start with Jabot, since Allie enjoyed the lab. Allie marveled about being connected to Jabot, which she called a behemoth. She was fascinated by the lab. Traci said Ashley was always happy in the lab. Ashley said she’d known what she wanted to do since she was a little girl, and fortunately, her father supported her. Allie said her dad was like that too. Keemo always cheered Allie on, but he’d been especially excited when she decided to follow in his footsteps and go into chemical engineering.

Allie thought it was amazing that Traci ventured out beyond the family business. Allie asked if Traci always knew she wanted to be a writer. Traci said she had no idea what she wanted to do when she was young. Ashley said that was because Traci was born with so many gifts. Traci was modest, but Ashley said Traci could’ve been a successful singer. They began to tell Allie about Danny Romalotti, the famous singer who used to live in Genoa City. Traci said that Danny saved her in many ways. At first she was his fan club president, then he asked her to sign with him. There was a flashback to Traci and Danny. He felt lucky to meet her. In the present, Traci said she discovered her real passion was for writing. Traci flashed back to getting a copy of her first book from Tim.

Allie commented on how accomplished and confident her aunts were. She wondered if they were this confident at her age, and they both laughed and said no. traci said your young adult years were exhilarating, but they could also be the most challenging time of your life. Traci said she’d struggled with her weight and insecurities, and a diet pill addiction almost cost her her life. Traci said she had to learn to love herself. Ashley talked about how difficult it was to watch Traci suffer through that. The family all loved Traci so much that they couldn’t believe she didn’t love herself. Allie was sure Traci must have had a lot of support, since everyone who met her seemed to love her.

Traci said Lauren Fenmore didn’t like her. Allie had heard of the Fenmore’s department stores. Traci said that sometimes she found ways to fight back. There was a flashback to Lauren ordering Traci a banana split as a way to needle her over her weight struggles. Traci poured the ice cream over Lauren’s head. Traci told Allie that Lauren was a torn in her side for years, and decades later, they became friends. There was a flashback to older Lauren and Traci. Lauren had deeply apologized for bullying Traci, and they hugged.

Allie asked if Ashley had a nemesis. Ashley said she and Nikki were romantic rivals. Traci told Allie that Nikki was Noah’s grandmother. There was a flashback to Nikki saying she wouldn’t let Ashley take her husband. Ashley told Allie she didn’t set out to make an enemy of Nikki, but it was just that Ashley and Victor had a very strong connection from the moment they met. Ashley said her early relationship with Victor came at a painful cost. There was a flashback to Ashley and Victor having an argument in the rain over Ashley having an abortion. She accused him of living in a fantasy world where the two of them and their baby could’ve lived a perfect life, but she knew it wouldn’t work out. He yelled that he thought they loved each other. She said she loved him desperately, but things changed. Victor told Ashley that he would’ve helped her with their child. She said that would’ve required him to betray his commitment to Nikki. She’d agonized for days to find an alternative that would work for everyone, but there wasn’t one. She felt that her family and her career was all she had left now.

Ashley said she and Victor made it through the dark days and they got married. Laughing, Traci said they got married more than once. There was a flashback to Victor giving Ashley an elegant watch. She felt that it was too much, since he’d just given her a gorgeous diamond pendant. He said he wanted to give her so much more. He wanted to make her life a fantasy. She said he already had, and they kissed. Ashley told Allie that she and Victor still had a bond, albeit a very different one. Abby walked up and she was part of that bond – an Abbott, Newman and a Carlton, in her heart. Abby joined the table. Traci said Brad Carlton was a successful executive at Newman and Jabot, but he came from modest roots. He was originally hired as the Abbott groundskeeper and pool man, but Traci couldn’t keep her eyes off him, and he knew it. There was a flashback to an early Traci and Brad scene. He insisted on taking her to the movies, because she was miserable, and he thought she needed to get out of the house and stop brooding.

Traci fell for Brad hard. In a flashback, he carried her over the threshold as newlyweds. Traci said that as much as she and Brad loved each other, they weren’t able to keep it together, but one beautiful thing came out of their love – their daughter, Colleen. Traci flashed to her and Brad with their newborn. Allie said she didn’t know Traci had a daughter. Traci explained that Colleen died when she was about Allie’s age. Allie was sorry. Traci reminisced about her smart, spirited artistic and determined daughter. Allie was curious how Traci got through it. Traci said for awhile she wasn’t sure she would, but her amazing family helped her got back on her feet.

Traci was sure Allie wondered how Ashley and Abby factored into Brad’s story. She said both Abbott sisters had a soft spot for him. Ashley clarified that Brad and Traci were over long before he started something with Ashley. Traci had no resentment for that anymore. Ashley said she’d been married several times – more than you could count on one hand, and there wasn’t enough time to talk about all her exes, so they’d just talk about Brad. Ashley wanted a child, and she was going to raise it on her own, but Brad had different ideas, and he courted her. Ashley gave birth to Abby on her wedding day to Brad. Things didn’t go as planned.

There was a flashback. Ashley was in a hospital bed. Victor was at the foot of the bed holding the newborn Abby, and Ashley became increasingly agitated when Victor wouldn’t give her the baby. Brad walked in. Ashley told Allie that Brad adopted Abby, and they had a sweet and wonderful family for awhile. Abby said no one knew Victor was her father for years. The way she saw it, she had two incredible dads growing up. Abby said Traci and Ashley were amazing role models. Traci and Ashley clasped hands.

Traci, Allie and Ashley went to the Abbott house, and Billy and Jack were there. Allie loved hearing about Ashley and Traci. Billy said his sisters were very different women, but they had things in common – bright minds, big hearts and phenomenal resilience. He said his sisters always wanted what was best for him, and they wanted the best for Allie too. Billy offered to give Allie another version of the Abbott story sometime. She was interested, so they agreed to meet up at some point. Ashley was concerned about what Billy was going to say. Billy gave a preview. He said everyone in the room had been through hell and back, but they’d always had each others’ backs, and he wasn’t sure where he’d be without his brother and sisters. Traci said she’d already told Allie about her darkest hours, and how grateful she was to have had her family to help her find her way.

Ashley said the most frightening time she’d experienced was when she was fighting for her life. She began to cry about the time she had breast cancer. There was a flashback to her talking to Jack about her stress. She said Brad was doing a great job taking care of her. Jack wanted Ashley to lean on her family. She thought he was saying to lean on them instead of Victor. He clarified that he never said that. He wanted her to be easy on herself. He was sure she’d get through this. Allie said these stories touched her heart. She felt that her family was special. Jack was glad Allie was talking about herself as one of them, because she was. He said the family’s strength started at the top, with her great grandfather, John Abbott. Jack said John could still be felt at the breakfast table. There was a flashback to Jack at the head of the table toasting to John and expressing thanks that his sisters were back in town and at the table with him again.

Traci said the family breakfasts were the most important tradition they had, and they were happy to have a seat at the table for Allie. Allie was enjoying herself, but Noah texted asking to hang out. She didn’t want to be rude and just leave, but her family encouraged her to go. Billy walked Allie out, since he was leaving too. Jack was grateful Ashley and Traci included Allie today. He thought she could benefit from having them in her life, especially since her mother cut ties. Ashley said they knew how that felt. Jack asked if Dina came up today. Traci said they didn’t go down that path because they didn’t want Allie to feel like they were pressuring her to talk about her own mother. Jack thought that was the right call. Allie’s last encounter with her mother was especially painful, and he wasn’t sure when they would see each other again.

Traci flashed back to the first time she saw Dina again, after Dina abandoned them. Traci said that when she was growing up, even before Dina left, she always felt like Dina didn’t want her around. Traci asked if Dina ever really wanted her. Dina admitted that she didn’t plan the pregnancy, but she was very happy to have another little girl. Traci asked why Dina never showed her that. Dina said she thought Traci was very beautiful.

Ashley remembered that when Dina came back, she revealed that Brent Davis was Ashley’s biological father. It shocked and hurt Ashley so badly that she developed amnesia. She thought it was so difficult for her to accept that she wasn’t John’s daughter. There was a flashback to John and Ashley. Sobbing, he told her that she brought him more joy than any father could ever ask. He implored her to remember him. She cried that she didn’t remember. He tried to touch her, but she pulled back.

Traci was relieved Ashley found her way back. Ashley was relieved John never learned the truth. Traci said the truth was that Ashley was John’s daughter and she always would be. Ashley never thought she’d be able to forgive Dina, but in last few months of Dina’s life, Ashley saw that Dina tried so hard to make up for those transgressions. There was a flashback to Ashley learning that Dina convinced John to put the patents for the cosmetics Ashley created into her name. Ashley cried happy tears because she finally knew Dina loved her. Ashley told Jack and Traci that she was grateful they were able to reconcile with Dina before her death. Traci was glad she found the things Dina wrote about her family before she was too far into her illness.

Jack said he was proud to call Traci and Ashley his sisters and to be part of the family. Traci marveled at how quickly time passed. It seemed like just yesterday that they were kids, and now there were children and grandchildren and nieces and nephews coming to them for advice. Ashley hoped the new generation would learn from the mistakes of the past, and Traci said they’d understand how lucky they were to be an Abbott. There were a variety of flashbacks focused on Ashley and Traci that were shown to conclude the commemoration of Beth Maitland (Traci) and Eileen Davidson’s (Ashley) 40 year anniversary on Young and the Restless.

Traci: Oh. Hey.

Ashley: Hi.

Traci: Hi. I’m so excited that we could get together.

Ashley: I know! I thought a little girl time was in order with our grand-niece.

Traci: It’s a wonderful idea. And I’m very excited that allie has decided to stay in town a little longer and maybe, who knows, she’ll decide to make this her permanent home.

Ashley: I hope so. She’s been through so much since keemo died. I mean, her whole world has been turned upside down.

Traci: Yeah, and we both know what it’s like to be estranged from your mother at an early age.

Ashley: We certainly do. I think it’s so tragic that keemo wasn’t able to reconcile with jack before he died. I would’ve loved it so much if allie’s first time in genoa city was with her father by her side.

Traci: Yeah. And I know it’s not the same thing at all, but the situation has made me remember what it was like when I was in boarding school after dina abandoned us, and I was so worried about coming home and how I was gonna fit. I mean, I was excited to come home, but I was nervous, and I’m so lucky to have had daddy there to make me feel safe. I’m just not the perfect little girl for the president of jabot cosmetics to be proud to show off.

John: Now, you listen to me. You are a very special, lovely girl. And I am very proud to introduce you to anyone at anytime.

Traci: [ Exhales sharply ] Well, I’ll tell you one thing, I’m very proud to be your daughter.

John: Oh, baby.

Traci: I miss him. I think of him every single day.

Ashley: I do, too. We were so lucky to have him for as long as we did. Daddy was always there for us, every single milestone moment, rooting us on. Always encouraging us to embrace the future.

John: You’re graduating with honors, and not a word to your father. Why?

Ashley: I wanted you to come to my graduation for me, not my grades.

John: Well, ashley, I am — I’m very proud of you.

Ashley: Didn’t think the kid had it in her, huh?

John: No, you’re wrong. I have never underestimated my oldest daughter.

Ashley: Wise man.

John: Listen, you. I think you can do anything you want to. And you don’t have to prove a thing to me, ashley.

Ashley: That’s where you’re wrong. I’ve got a lot to prove. I know that I had a couple issues concerning allie in the very beginning, but I don’t anymore, and I think it’s super important that we honor jack and especially our father by making sure that allie feels she’s been a part of this family from the very beginning.

Ashley: Wow!

Abby: I did something a little extra for today for the three of you.

Traci: It’s so pretty.

Abby: Aww, well, you are so welcome, and I spoke to the chef. We created a special menu for the occasion.

Ashley: This was so thoughtful of you. Allie’s gonna love it.

Abby: Oh, good.

Allie: Hi, you guys.

Abby: Hi!

Allie: Oh, my gosh, this is beautiful, abby.

Abby: Aww, well, this was really fun to put together. If you need anything, anything at all, please let me know. I will be back to check on you. Mwah. I love you.

Allie: Hi.

Traci: Hey.

Allie: Let me just say, it is so kind of you guys to do this, arrange this whole thing.

Traci: It’s our pleasure. We have loved getting to know you and spending the time we’ve spent so far.

Ashley: But we know we’ve been bombarding you with a lot of questions about you and your life and everything.

Traci: So we decided you needed a little time to find out about our lives, if you’re curious.

Allie: Oh, I am, for sure. You know, it’s really nice that you guys finish each other’s sentences.

Ashley: Do we do that?

Traci: I —

Ashley: We can’t help it. We’ve known each other for a long time.

Allie: It’s obvious you guys are super close.

Traci: We’ve had our moments.

in a book.

Ashley: Because traci wrote a book about the abbott family history.; Got to make sure we get her a copy.

Traci: We will, we will. But I thought it was a good idea if you heard some of the stories in person first because the written abbott family history is a lot to take in.

Allie: [ Chuckles ] Well, I am not sure where to start.

Ashley: OkaY. Well, you took a tour of the jabot lab, right? You enjoyed that. So anything else you want to know?

Allie: I loved that. I loved going to jabot and seeing the inner workings of the company. It was awesome, and I usually have a million questions, but they seem to be escaping me right now. Jabot is huge. It’s a behemoth in the industry — and for me to be personally connected to it? And then, of course, observing how the fragrances and cosmetics are made? I loved it. It’s absolutely fascinating.

Traci: Now you’re starting to sound a little bit like ashley.

[ Laughter ] Who’s always in her happy place there.

Ashley: It’s so true. I always knew what I wanted to do, ever since I was a little girl. And thankfully I had a father who supported me every step of the way.

Allie: Yeah, my dad was like that, too. He always told me how proud he was, always encouraged me to pursue my own interests, but when I told him that I was interested in getting a degree in chemical engineering — whew — he was so excited that i was following in his footsteps, just like you did with your dad. But what was most important to my father — as it seems like with yours, ashley — was that i was always pursuing my own passion.

Ashley: Yes, that’s all our father wanted for any of us.

Allie: And, traci, for you, i think it’s amazing that you were able to venture out beyond the family business and really forge your own path. I mean, did you — did you always know that you wanted to be a writer?

Traci: [ Chuckles ] Oh, no, no, no, I had no idea what i wanted to do with my life.

Ashley: Aww. That’s the burden of being born with too many gifts, see?

Traci: Oh, what a lovely way of looking at things. No, I did know that I wanted to do something creative.

[ Laughs ] Danny? Wh-why are you staring at me like that?

Danny: Oh, I’m sorry, I was, uh…I was just thinking how lucky I am that we met and had a chance to become such good friends.

Traci: [ Chuckles ] Well, I think about that every day, danny. Every day of my life. So, as exciting as my time was as a singer, I eventually found out my real passion was for writing. And it has been so meaningful to be able to experience success doing something I love.

[ Gasps ] Oh. I don’t believe it. I don’t believe it.

Tim: [ Laughs ]

Traci: It’s the book — my first copy.

Tim: Actually, it’s an advance copy. I asked the publisher to send it to me so I could give it to you in person. What do you think? Is it what you expected, trace?

Allie: Wow, you both accomplished so much. And you both seem so confident.

[ Sighs ] It makes me feel like you guys were always this way. Were you like this when you were my age?

Traci: [ Laughs ] No.

Ashley: No.

[ Both laugh ] We were nowhere near the people we are now.

Traci: Yeah. These young adult years, they’re so exhilarating and, you know, you’re finding yourself. You’re — you’re finding out what you want as you make your way. But they can also be some of the most challenging years of your life. My moderate to severe plaque psoriasis…

Traci: Actually, ashley was a lot more poised and self-confident than I was when we were younger. I was riddled with insecurities. I — I struggled with my weight, and at one point, I became addicted to diet pills. It nearly cost me my life.

[ Chuckles ] But it’s all because I was desperate to look different, to be anybody but myself, and it was a pivotal time for me. I learned that I had to love myself.

Ashley: And we just couldn’t believe that she didn’t because we loved her so much for the extraordinary person that she was. It’s very difficult to watch her suffer that way.

Allie: I’m so sorry that you went through that, traci. But I feel like you must have had a ton of people who loved you and rallied around you. I feel like everyone who meets you loves you.

Traci: [ Laughs ] Well, I don’t know about that. Certainly not lauren fenmore. She [Chuckles] Was the worst.

Allie: Wait, wait, wait. Lauren fenmore? Like fenmore’s department stores?

Traci: That’s the one. That lauren, she could turn on the charm like nobody’s business, but I don’t know, there was something about me — I don’t know, she just didn’t like me, and there were times when I found ways to fight back. Wait, excuse me, miss. I didn’t order this.

Oh, I know, hon. Your girlfriend over there ordered it for you.

Night after night my heartbeat shows the fear

Traci: Excuse me.

Ghosts appear and fade away

Lauren: Hey, traci, that’s some dessert you got there. Need any help eating it?

Traci: No, thanks, lauren. This one’s on you.

Lauren: [ Gasps ]

[ Laughter ]

Oh, my god!

[ Laughter ]

Traci: I suppose we shouldn’t laugh.

[ Laughter ]

Ashley: Of course we should.

Traci: Lauren was a thorn in my side for years.

[ Sighs ] But you just find ways to deal with it. And you know what? Shockingly, decades later, she and I became good friends. This might be the most pleasant conversation you and I have ever had.

Lauren: I deserve that.

Traci: Oh, no, I did not mean that you —

Lauren: No, no, traci. Look, you’ve never done or said anything wrong in your entire life. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same thing. But when I saw you here, i didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to tell you how truly sorry I am. You know, I’d like to think that I’m a better person now.

[ Chuckles ] But until I looked you in the eye and really apologized, i knew that wasn’t gonna be true.

Traci: [ Chuckles ] Just goes to show you, you just never know how things are gonna turn out with a person, if you can give them enough time.

Allie: Yeah. Yeah, I’m beginning to learn that. Ashley, what about you? Anyone like that in your past? A nemesis?

Ashley: Oh, good question. I think the only opponents were maybe because I thought they spelled trouble for the people that I really cared about. As far as romantic rivals, well, nikki newman and I have certainly had our fair share of issues over the years.

Traci: [ Laughs ]

Allie: Nikki newman?

Traci: Nikki, that’s your friend noah’s grandmother. And I would say you had issues for decades.

[ Chuckles ] It went both ways, though. Nikki felt that ashley was a threat to her family and to her happiness.

Ashley: Why are you here? We both know it’s not for professional reasons.

Nikki: Oh, ashley, you don’t fool me. You know exactly why I’m here, and I know exactly what you’re up to, too. You try to play this little innocent routine. You are not innocent at all. And I just came here to tell you that it’s not going to work. Because I know what you want, and you aren’t going to have him. You are not going to get my husband.

Ashley: Oh. I mean, it’s not like I set out to make nikki my enemy.

[ Chuckles ] It’s just that victor and I had a very strong connection from the first time we met, and, um…I’m gonna spare you the details on that, but I’ll just say that our early relationship came at a very painful cost.

Victor: How can you talk to me about being fair right now?

Ashley: You’re living in some fantasy world with you, me, and the baby in a perfect setting. Isolated from the real world. It would never be that way for us.

Victor: I thought you and i loved each other!

Ashley: God, victor. When this child was conceived, i loved you desperately. But things changed. Your whole life changed drastically, and so did mine.

Victor: Don’t you understand that I would have helped you?

Ashley: How? By betraying your commitment to nikki?

Victor: You didn’t even give me a chance to tell you.

Ashley: No, I didn’T. And you want to know why? God, I thought for days and days of an alternative. Something that would work for me and would work for you and would work for everybody else. But there is none! If you came to me now, it would throw your life into chaos, victor. And what about my life? What about my — my family? What about my career? That’s all I have left now. Somehow, victor and I made it through the dark days, and we ended up getting married.

Traci: [ Laughs ] More than once.

Ashley: Hey.

Allie: Wait, what?

Ashley: Come on.

Traci: [ Laughs ]

Ashley: That’s what I call an epic romance, thank you. You’re always so full of surprises. Victor.

Victor: Do you like it?

Ashley: It is the most breathtaking and elegant watch I have ever seen. You should not have done this.

Victor: And why not?

Ashley: Because you just gave me that gorgeous diamond pendant.

Victor: There’s so much more that I want to give you. I want to make your life a fantasy.

Ashley: You already have. And victor and I still have a bond, albeit a much different one today.

Abby: And part of that bond is standing right here. I’m part abbott, part newman, and part carlton in my heart, too.

Allie: Wait, carlton?

Traci: Brad carlton. He’s no longer with us, but from the moment he came through the front door of the abbott house, he changed all of our lives forever. I’m steve, I lost 138 pounds in nine months on golo

Traci: Okay, maybe I’d better start at the beginning. So if you were to internet search brad, you would find that he had been a successful executive at both newman and at jabot, but he came from pretty modest roots. When our family first met him, he had been hired as our groundskeeper and our pool man.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Traci: And I couldn’t keep my eyes off him.

[ Laughs ] And he knew it!

[ Chuckles ] I need a little time to put this stuff into perspective, ’cause i don’t think anything else is gonna help.

Brad: Well, that may be true, but tonight, what you need is not to dwell on this.

Traci: Well, that’s a little bit easier said than done.

Brad: Of course it is, especially if you sit around a dark room, brooding. But you’re not gonna get a chance to do that.

Traci: I’m not?

Brad: Nope. I’m gonna take you out.

Traci: Well, thank you, brad, but I really don’t feel like going out.

Brad: I know you don’t feel like it, and that’s why we’re gonna go. There’s a great movie playing in town and I’ve been wanting to see it anyway. And it just so happens that it’s probably the best thing for you. Especially tonight.

Traci: Look, I appreciate what you’re trying to do, brad, but I really don’t feel like going to the movies.

Brad: Traci, I am not gonna leave this house without you. I will not take no for an answer.

Traci: Why are you doing this to yourself? I’m miserable. I am going to be miserable and I’m gonna ruin the movie for you.

Brad: Well, there’s something wrong with my hearing here. Must be some water in there or something. Gosh, I’m gonna change my shirt, and then we’re gonna go. Oh.

[ Chuckles ]

Traci: I’ll help you. Here.

Brad: Hey.

Traci: There. And here. Got it?

Brad: Thank you. Give it a chance, traci. If you’re not real careful, you just might enjoy yourself.

Ashley: He was quite a charmer.

Traci: [ Chuckles ] And I fell for him hard. I can’t believe that you are doing this.

Brad: Well, what kind of honeymoon would it be if i didn’t cryary bride across the threshold?

Traci: [ Chuckles ] Thank you. You’re incredible, you know that?

Brad: Yeah, well…

Traci: [ Laughs ] But as much as we loved each other — and we did — we just couldn’t seem to keep things together. We’re together and then apart and the back together, and then done. But there is one beautiful thing that came out of the love that brad and I shared — our daughter colleen.

Traci: Brad, she’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.

[ Inhales sharply ]

[ Chuckles ] Look, baby, it’s your daddy. He brought you into this world.

Brad: Well, actually, I think your mom and I kind of did this together.

Traci: [ Chuckles ] Brad, I don’t know what i would’ve done without you.

Allie: Traci, I didn’t know you had a daughter.

Traci: She passed away when she was a young woman, about the age you are now.

Allie: Oh, my god, I am so sorry, traci.

Traci: Oh, she was smart and she was spirited and artistic and determined and self-confident. Oh, I wish you could’ve known her.

Allie: I wish I could have, too. How did you — sorry, never mind.

Traci: No, honey, it’s okay. How did I manage to get through? For a while, I wasn’t sure I was going to. I can tell you, losing colleen was the most difficult thing i have ever had to face.

[ Sighs ] But I had this one and this one and the rest of my amazing family to help me get back on my feet. Now, I bet you’re wondering

[Chuckles] How abby and ashley kind of factor into this story of brad.

[ Chuckles ] Well, as it turns out, both of the abbott sisters had a soft spot for him.

[ Chuckles ]

Ashley: W– just to keep things straight here…

[ Laughter ] …Traci and brad were over long before brad and I got together.

>>Raci: Yes, and I have no resentment for that anymore, as you know. And, um…you know, you cared about each other for a very long time, and he had deep feelings for you. It just was your momenT.

Ashley: Yeah. So I’ve been married several times.

Traci: Several times.

Ashley: Several times. More than you could count on one hand, allie. More than you can count on one hand. And there’s not enough hours in the day to talk about them.

[ Laughter ] So we’ll just talk about brad, okay? So here’s the short version. I decided I wanted to have a child and I was gonna raise that child on my own. But apparently, brad carlton had different ideas, and — what can I say? — He courted me, and, mm, we fell in love. And I ended up giving birth to this one on our wedding day.

[ Laughs ]

Abby: I know how to make an entrance.

Ashley: Yes, you do. Yes, you do. And looking into this girl’s face for the very first time was the most magical moment of my life. Even if that day didn’t go exactly as I thought it would.

[ Laughter ] Victor, would you please give her to me? Please? I’m moving on with my life. Would you please?

Victor: Why are you talking like this?

Ashley: Victor, give me my baby, please.

Victor: Baby’s perfectly fine. Don’t get upset.

Ashley: Give me my baby right now. Give her to me. And then that lovely man, brad, he adopted abby. We had a very sweet, wonderful family for quite a while.

Allie: So you are victor’s daughter, and that must mean…

Abby: Nobody knew that victor was my father for years, but, you know, the way I look at it is that I had two incredible dads growing up… and the most amazing mom and aunt that anyone could ever ask for. You know, these two women, they are amazing role models filled with so much wisdom and love to share. Go with simparica trio it’s triple protection made simple!

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Ashley: Hello, boys.

Billy: Hi.

Allie: Hi, guys.

Traci: Hey! We have all of the abbott siblings under one roof. I don’t think that that has happened since the day that allie arrived.

Jack: I was just telling billy you’d be home soon.

Billy: Yeah, I just wanted to come by, check up on everyone. Looks like you’re having a good, old time.

Ashley: Having a great time.

Jack: So how was the meal?

Traci: It was delicious, and the company was even better.

Ashley: What about the conversation?

Allie: Oh, it was quite interesting.

[ Chuckles ]

Ashley: Right. We’ve been dishing about the abbotts, and I think you’ve gotten a better window into our history. Right, allie? Although there’s only so much ground we can cover over one small meal.

Allie: You guys were both so kind and open, and I’ve loved hearing everything about your lives.

Billy: I’m sure you can tell now, my two sisters are very different women, but they have a few things in common — bright minds, big hearts, and phenomenal resilience. And whether you like it or not, they’re gonna tell you exactly what they think.

Jack: Oh, boy, are they.

Billy: In my case, “or not” has been quite prevalent at times.

[ Laughter ] But I will say that they have always wanted what was best for me. As they do for you.

Allie: I can feel that already.

Billy: Of course, if you want another version of the abbott family story, I will be more than happy to sit down with you and vent — I mean chat.

Allie: Oh. Well, I would actually love that. So maybe we do dinner sometime.

Billy: Absolutely, let’s do that.

Ashley: Um, um, excuse me.

[ Chuckles ] What are you gonna say? I’m a little afraid.

Billy: Oh, yeah, you want a preview? It would go something like this. Everybody in this room here has been through hell and back, and there’s been times where we have challenged each other and we’ve gone at it a little bit. But one thing has always been true — we’ve always had each other’s backs, no matter what. And that is never gonna change. Without my brother here or my sisters, I really don’t know where I would be.

Traci: Well, I have told allie already about my darkest hours and how grateful I am to have my family to have helped me find my way.

Ashley: And I, um… oh, boy, I have definitely felt lost several times over the years, and probably the most frightening was when I was literally fighting for my life because I am…

[ Exhales sharply ] I’m a breast cancer survivor. I fought very hard and i certainly gained strength from our father. Always daddy, right? And absolutely from the people in this room.

Jack: You mentioned stress a little earlier.

Ashley: My being sick, jack.

Jack: I’m sure that brings with it its own share of tensions.

Ashley: Yeah. Brad’s doing a great job, you know? He takes good care of me. He worries about me, and so he loses sleep. It’s not that. You take these marriage vows — “in sickness and in health” — but I don’t think any couple can really understand what that means unless they experience something like this themselves.

Jack: So lean on us. Let us help you.

Ashley: [ Clears throat ] Instead of victor?

Jack: Hey, those are your words, not mine. Hey, the way I see it, it could only add to the stress.

Ashley: It’s a whole constellation of things, jackie.

Jack: Be easy on yourself. You will get through this. And once you do, your life will be normal again, I promise.

Allie: Your stories, they have touched my heart. This family, my family, is something very special.

Jack: Well, I am glad to hear you talk about yourself as one of us.

Traci: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: Because you are. And any strength this family has started at the top with your great-grandfather, john abbott.

Allie: Right, from what I’ve heard, he was an exceptional man.

Jack: He was, indeed. We feel his presence in this house to this day. Especially at the breakfast table.

Traci: [ Laughs ]

Jack: Something about that table had the power to bring these girls back, no matter how far away they lived. I would like to propose a toast. To dad — never far from our thoughts, never far from our hearts.

Traci: To dad. Hear, hear.

[ Chuckles ]

Jack: And to my two beautiful sisters. You have no idea how many times I’ve dreamed of just this — the three of us sitting at this table together.

Traci: Fighting over who’s gonna get the last cinnamon roll.

Ashley: Yeah.

Jack: We’ll share it three ways.

Traci: [ Chuckles ]

Ashley: Yep, the abbott family breakfasts — probably the most important tradition we have.

Traci: Definitely the most important.

[ Laughter ] And we are all so very happy to have a seat at that table for you.

[ Chuckles ] When tired, achy feet make your whole body want to stop,

Ashley: So, allie, are you still enjoying yourself or are you on abbott overload?

[ Laughter ]

Allie: I’m good, I’m good. But listen, I don’t want you guys to stay and feel like you have to entertain me or tell me more stories. It’s not like I’m going anywhere anytime soon.

Billy: [ Chuckles ]

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Allie: Okay, wait, I take that back. Maybe I am actually going somewhere. Noah just asked me to hang out.

Ashley: Aww.

Allie: But I don’t want to be rude. You guys have been so awesome and open with me.

Traci: Please, go, go, go. You have to go.

Billy: Yeah, I’ll walk out with you because once they all start talking, you’ll never get another chance to escape.

[ Laughter ]

Allie: Alright. Well, thank you both for everything today.

Billy: Bye, love.

Ashley: Bye.

Traci: Bye.

Jack: Bye. Mm.

Traci: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: Thank you so much for including her. I think that meant the world to her.

Traci: Oh. The more I’m around allie, the more I like her.

Ashley: Me too. Jack, she’s such a lovely addition to this family.

Jack: I am glad to hear you say that because I think she could really use a professional mentor. In fact, I think she would benefit from having both of you in her life, especially since her mother practically cut ties with her.

Ashley: Yeah. Well, we know what that’s like, right? I will step up and do whatever i can for her.

Traci: And of course, you know I will.

Jack: So in these conversations about the abbotts, did you mention dina at all?

Ashley: Mnh-mnh.

Traci: No, you know, we decided not to go down that path. We didn’t want allie to feel like we were pressuring her to talk about her own mother. She’ll open up when she gets more comfortable with us.

Jack: Yeah, I think that’s the right call. Her last encounter with her mother was especially painful, and I don’t know when or if they’re gonna see each other again.

Traci: Wow. I know the first I saw dina years later, after she abandoned us, oh, it was really hard. Mother, back when I was growing up…

Dina: Yes.

Traci: …Even before you left…

[ Sighs ] …I always felt like I was in your way.

Dina: Traci —

Traci: I always felt like i was someone that you didn’t really want to have around, and I want to know, mother… did you ever really want me?

Dina: You want me to tell you the truth? Very well. I won’t deny I was quite surprised when I found myself pregnant for you. It certainly wasn’t something i had planned or anticipated. But when you did arrive, traci, I was very happy to have another little girl.

Traci: Then why, mother? Why didn’t you ever show me?

Dina: Traci. If I don’t see you again… I think you’re very beautiful.

Traci: Goodbye, mother. There was a lot of healing to do. Both for me and for ashley.

Ashley: Yeah, I had no idea what was in store for me when mother came back and…

[ Sighs ] …Told me that brent davis was my biological father. That was so painful. Right? I mean, I literally — I couldn’t remember who I was or where I came from. I think that it was just so difficult for me to accept the fact that I — I wasn’t john abbott’s daughter.

John: You have brought more joy to my life than any father could ever ask. Please, please, dig down deep, try — try to remember. God, does any of it — any of it sound familiar?

Ashley: No.

John: Ashley, I’m your daddy, your father, and I love you so. I just want to help you. I just — just want to bring you home…where you belong. We all do. Please, baby…

Ashley: [ Sobs ] I’m sorry. I’m really sorry.

Traci: Thank god you found your way back.

Ashley: Yeah. And thank god daddy never learned the truth.

Traci: Ashley, the truth is that you are his daughter. You always were and you always will be.

Ashley: Oh, boy. I — I honestly never thought i could ever forgive mother for all of her lies and all of her deceit, and I never thought I’d be able to move past that combative relationship I had with her. But, you know, the last few months that she was with us, she really showed me that she…she tried so hard to make up for those transgressions. When you were looking out for me back then, when you had daddy drop those documents that leave me the rights to the patents of all the formulas that I created.

Dina: I-I just don’t remember, dear.

Ashley: I know. It doesn’t matter because you did it. You made sure that my paternity couldn’t be used against me to cut me out of my share of daddy’s legacy. I mean, you — you put that in writing for me.

Dina: Oh, sweetheart, you’re — you’re crying.

Ashley: They’re happy tears.

Dina: Oh, I’m glad.

Ashley: You know, for so long, I doubted that you loved me, and I see that I was wrong. She did love me. I have moderate to severe ulcerative colitis.

Ashley: You know, the only thing that I’m left with is I’m so grateful that we had that time with her before she passed. So many of those old wounds were healed, and, jack, don’t you feel like you were able to reconcile your past with her? And, traci, don’t you feel like she finally accepted you and appreciated you for who you are?

Traci: I’m just…grateful and I will cherish that I found what she wrote about all of us before she was too far into her illness.

Ashley: And with her last breaths, she was able to give us the one thing that we needed, the one thing that we wanted to hear more than anything else. That she loved us.

Traci: And I will carry that forever. Oh, why am I so tired?

Ashley: Because it’s exhausting being so emotional and sentimental.

Traci: [ Laughs ]

Jack: We’ve been through a lot together. Good and bad. I probably don’t say this enough, but I am very proud to call you my sisters, very proud to be part of this family.

Traci: What has happened? It seems like yesterday we were kids. We were running around this house, and now there are grandchildren. Ahh! Grand-nieces and grand-nephews coming to us for advice and guidance — what?

Ashley: You know, when i think about the generation that comes after us and the one after that, I am so filled with hope. They’re gonna know all of our stories. All of the horrible mistakes that we’ve made. All of the triumphs that we’ve celebrated. All of the sorrow, all of the joy. And you know what? They’re gonna learn from it. I hope they’re gonna learn from it, and they’re gonna move forward, carrying the best qualities of everyone that’s come before us.

Traci: And they will understand how very lucky they are to be an abbott.

Jill: Well, well, well. What have we here? I never in a million years would have expected to find the two of you together.

Jack: We had a few things to discuss. I take it this means that the launch party is over?

Diane: And I can assume the news of my resurrection preceded me, since you don’t look like you saw a ghost.

Jill: No, no, Billy filled me in. Plus, I spotted you at the Chancellor-Winters event. I just didn’t want to interrupt Nikki ’cause she was having such a good time giving you hell.

Diane: [Chuckles] And what, now it’s your turn? Go ahead, pile on. I’ve built up enough armor that I can handle whatever it is you want to dish out.

Jill: No, I’m not gonna rake you over the coals, because, actually, I am very impressed with how you managed to pull this off. Faking your own death so convincingly and then coming back here and facing the wrath of all these people who hate you?

[Chuckles] That takes more guts than actually dying.

****************************

Sally: This is my first time in the inner sanctum. I have to say, I’m impressed. But you’re definitely gonna have to do some redecorating. Starting with that. Should we have a painting commissioned of you?

Adam: It’s not my style. Frankly, I think I would be a little uncomfortable staring at myself all day.

Sally: Why? Trust me, it is a nice view.

Adam: Hey, if I would like a face that I enjoy looking at, i would have to get a portrait of you.

Sally: Well, I am flattered, but you might confuse your visitors about who’s actually in charge.

Adam: Alright, well, how about a nice piece of modern art? You know, a little something abstract that doesn’t send any messages.

Sally: Well, I don’t care if it’s dogs playing poker as long as it is not your gloating sister.

Adam: Mm. Well, I think I could get behind something deliberately tacky for fun, but not that. Dumb animals playing poker — that would just remind me of Billy.

Sally: Yeah, definitely don’t want to be thinking of him when you’re closing deals.

Jill: Oh! Call me a romantic fool, but you know what I love? I love it when two corporations are able to come together and create an even bigger and more powerful one.

Jack: That’s what counts for romance these days, huh?

Jill: Well, just imagine it, Jack. If all business sales were done this way, I mean, with respect, mutual admiration, equality, total transparency —

Jack: I couldn’t think of anything more boring.

Jill: I know. We would not like that.

Jack: We liked the fight.

Jill: We liked to knock our foes to the ground.

Jack: We had fun, too, didn’t we?

Jill: Yep, we did. You know, it’s okay for Lily and Devon because they’re really much nicer people than we are.

Jack: You’ll get no argument from me on that.

Jill: Okay, now, I’m gonna ask you a personal question.

Jack: Well, thank you for warning me.

Jill: Oh, you’re welcome. So, I have heard that a miracle has occurred in my absence and Diane Jenkins has risen from the grave.

Jack: I guess you heard that from one of my siblings.

Jill: Honey, you can’t keep news like that a secret. Besides, I saw her here. And Nikki was obviously horrified that she was here, but here’s my question to you. Why weren’t you? I mean, you were really civil to each other, and I’m sure you and Kyle must be going through —

Jack: This is neither the time nor the place for that particular discussion.

Jill: Okay, okay, I agree. But please, before we table the topic, may I say something? I understand that this craziness with Diane has allowed to find a granddaughter that you never you had. Oh, my god, and while I know that it can’t make up for the loss of your son, darlin’ — and my heart is with you on that — what a gift to have found this girl.

***************************

Amanda: You know, discretion is very important as a lawyer, but right now I’d like to talk to you as a friend of a friend.

Jack: Okay.

Amanda: And this friend of mine, she may or may not have told me that she had a falling out with you recently.

Jack: And this friend of yours, does she happen to have red hair?

Amanda: And a soft spot for you. I hope you’re okay. I want you to know I am not taking sides. I’m not making excuses, but it sounds like she made a mistake. And I know that she is very, very sorry about what happened.

Jack: Yeah, so am I.

Chance: You just got it all under control.

Abby: Mm-hmm, which means that we are on track for that date night that you owe me.

Chance: Ooh, that’s funny. I thought you owed me.

Abby: You know, I am a big fan of compromise.

Chance: I’ve always been a big fan of yours.

Abby: Done, because that date night starts right now.

Billy: Hey. Thanks for coming. It means a lot.

Jack: Where else would I be?

Billy: Oh, I don’t know. Maybe with Phyllis. But, then again, she left town quite abruptly. Is everything okay?

Jack: From what I hear, she’s spending time with Daniel and his family.

Billy: From what you hear? She didn’t tell you she was leaving?

Jack: We are both adults. We don’t need to get lost in the minutiae of each other’s daily lives. I heard from Summer.

Billy: Hmm. Well, maybe it would be nice if you got lost in the minutiae every once in a while.

Jack: I’m getting relationship advice from you? Go ahead, I need a good laugh.

Billy: Hey, this quick wit has gotten me through a lot lately.

Jack: Has it gotten you through the latest complication with Locke? I’m sure you’re as thrilled as Kyle and I are that he’s staying in town.

Young & The Restless Update

Y&R logo

Recap written by Christine

Jack and Diane got coffee at Crimson Lights after dinner at Society. Jill ran into them. Diane noted that Jill didn’t look like she’d seen a ghost. Jill said Billy told her about Diane’s return, plus she saw Diane at the Chancellor-Winters event. Diane thought Jill was going to rail at her. Jill didn’t want to rake Diane over the coals. She was actually impressed Diane managed to convincingly fake her death, then return and face the wrath of the people who hated her. Jill said it took more guts than actually dying.

Diane said people in this town could be brutal. Jill thought Diane deserved it. Diane felt deep remorse and took no pride in deceiving so many people, especially her son. Jill knew what it was like to have a lot of dirt hurled at you, and it was hard to get past that. Jill wanted to know how close Jack was to Diane. Diane said he barely tolerated her – they were just meeting to discuss their son. Jill thought anyone would be surprised to see Jack and Diane having coffee. Jack said it was a process – Diane wanted to connect with Kyle, and Jack wasn’t getting in her way. Diane said she appreciated it. Jill burst out laughing because she knew their three younger selves wouldn’t have been so mature. There would’ve been drinks hurled and accusations thrown. Jill said Jack and Diane had been fire and ice in the past, but now they were turning the page. At this stage of Jill’s life, she thought it was so foolish to hold grudges. She said they couldn’t change the past, so they might as well try to change themselves.

It was late, so Jack had to get home. Diane was going to leave too, but Jill asked her to stay and talk. Jill was fascinated by back from the dead stories. Diane said she wasn’t a vampire or zombie – she didn’t actually die, so there wasn’t anything to talk about. Jill understood Diane’s trepidation, but she noted that she was not a suspect in Diane’s murder. Jack left, and Diane decided to stay. Jill said there weren’t very many people in town who’d be seen in public with Diane, besides her. Diane wanted to know what this meeting was really about. Jill said she didn’t get to Genoa City often, but she was fiercely protective of her family and friends. Diane said she wasn’t a threat. Jill wanted to know what Diane was after.

Diane was only after a close relationship with her son. Jill thought Diane always had an angle. Diane said that was the old her. The new her would do anything to make up for the lost time with her son. Diane heard that Jill had lost years with her son when Billy was growing up. Jill said it was different because her son didn’t grow up thinking she was dead. Jill knew Diane loved her son, but it seemed like there was something else Diane wanted going forward. Jill thought she saw a twinkle in Diane’s eye every time she looked at Jack.
Diane asked why she would want to complicate things by dredging up romantic history with Jack. Jill saw how Diane had been hanging on Jack’s every word. Diane said she and Jack had a connection – they went way back and they shared a son. Diane said Jack was treading very carefully around her. Jill said they were talking about Diane’s inclinations, not Jack’s. Jill said Jack was the most eligible bachelor in the northern hemisphere – debonair, charming, handsome, suave, rich. Diane suggested that Jill was the one with her eye on Jack.

Diane noted that Jill had her own romantic history with Jack. Jill said that was a brilliant deflective technique, but she and Diane both knew that Jill wasn’t after Jack. Jill said that if Diane got Jack back, that would go a long way toward convincing the people in this town that she was worthy of forgiveness. Jill said it would be a masterful move, and Diane was the master of those. Diane said she didn’t play those games anymore. Jill asked what Diane would say if Jack asked her to give it another try. Diane said if that happened someday, she’d be a fool to turn Jack down.

At the Abbott house, Kyle received the latest numbers for Marchetti and told Summer they were worse than expected. He was confident they could turn things around if they could get Angelina to replace her COO, who’d been behind a lot of the poor decisions made at the company. Summer revealed that Angelina wanted to retire. She said she trusted Summer not to tarnish the Marchetti brand. Summer intended to make sure the line continued to reflect Angelina’s sensibilities. Kyle suggested Summer run Marchetti, but she said she had no interest in the business side of the company. She wanted to remain creative director. Summer said they needed a leader who had an excellent background in business and could manage a large team. She thought he should do it.

Kyle was startled Summer wanted him to step down as co-CEO. She said that he’d be in charge of Marchetti, and he wouldn’t be co-running it. He said he couldn’t abandon his job. She pointed out that they’d all still be working for the same company. She said they’d be working together again, like they did at JCV, and they were a great team. He agreed that they’d been magical. He was flattered she thought of him for this. He had to think about it and talk with Jack. He loved the idea of working with her though.

When Jack came home, Kyle ran the idea by him. Kyle said it would give him a chance to make his mark solely on his own. He hoped Jack didn’t take it the wrong way. Jack was supportive of this and proud of Kyle, but on a selfish level, he didn’t want to lose his son at Jabot. Summer said that Kyle would just be running a different division under the Jabot umbrella, so Jack wouldn’t be losing him. Kyle hadn’t made up his mind yet. Kyle asked about the launch. Jack said that Chancellor Winters would be a force to be reckoned with. He mentioned he had a pleasant dinner with Diane. Kyle was just glad his parents could spend time with each other without fighting. Summer bet Jack wished he could’ve gone out with her mom instead. Jack said Phyllis was a great dinner companion, but she was out of town. Summer asked what Jack wasn’t telling her. She asked what happened between him and Phyllis and between Phyllis and Diane.

Jack knew Summer meant well, but he told her that if she had questions, she should ask her mother. He went to bed. Summer asked what the heck was going on with their parents. Kyle thought it was pretty obvious something happened between them and it had to do with his mom, but Jack and Phyllis didn’t have to share it with them. Summer knew that, but there was a dark cloud of tension affecting the whole family. He asked her not to blow this out of proportion. She said they couldn’t ignore their mothers’ dangerous histories – they were capable of broken bones, blackmail, burning down pool houses. He liked to think their moms were past that kind of behavior. She said they’d mellowed for now, but she was still worried because anything was possible when Diane and Phyllis got riled up.

Kyle didn’t think there was anything they could do but stay vigilant. He thought they should relax while their moms were in different states. Summer said her mom would be back and she wouldn’t be happy if she found Jack taking Diane to late night dinners. Kyle asked what Summer wanted him to do – discourage his dad from being nice to his mom? She didn’t want him to do that. He knew this wasn’t ideal that their moms hated each other, but they couldn’t control their parents. He suggested they focus on their future right now. They kissed.

At Society, Nikki called Victoria, who didn’t answer. Nikki was upset that Victoria actually left, and on such a bad note. Victor said Adam thought it was a sign of weakness that Victoria so easily succumbed to Ashland again. Nikki thought that they pushed Victoria too much. Victor felt that they did what they thought was best. Nikki said that was the problem – Victoria was an adult. She asked how long they really expected Victoria to let them treat her like a child. Victor felt that Victoria should expect them to treat her like a child forever, because she was their daughter, and she always would be. He disagreed that they’d pushed Victoria into anything. He said that Victoria didn’t want to accept that Ashland was a monster.

Victor said Victoria wouldn’t stay under Ashland’s spell for long. Nikki countered that they thought Victoria would be finished with Ashland after she found out he faked his illness, but that didn’t happen. Nikki was afraid Victoria would never leave Ashland. Victor was sure Ashland would do something monstrous and Victoria would come back. Nikki wasn’t confident. He asked why she didn’t trust in their plan. He said when Victoria realized he appointed Adam CEO, it would light a fire under her, and she’d come back. Nikki had approved of the plan at first, but now she was afraid Victoria would see it as manipulation. Victor still thought it would work. Nikki said Ashland was a big part of Victoria’s heart and that wouldn’t go away overnight, and he would be able to strengthen their bond.

Victor said they had a willful daughter, and they both knew where she got that trait from. It made him afraid Victoria would have to crash and burn before she came to her senses. Nikki asked what if Victoria didn’t crash and burn. Victor was sure Ashland would screw up sooner or later – a leopard didn’t change his spots. Nikki said that Victoria could succeed without Ashland – with her talent and drive she could do anything. Nikki stated that if Ashland screwed up, Victoria could kick him to the curb and still find great success and happiness without Ashland and without the Newman family. Victor took Nikki’s hand and asked if she really thought he’d allow their daughter to slip away. She realized he had another plan – something besides making Adam CEO. He said he was waiting for Ashland and Victoria to make their next move. When that happened, Victor would have more cards to play against Ashland. Cards that would destroy that son of a bitch once and for all. They toasted.

Ashland and Victoria entered a suite in NY. He welcomed her to her new home, for the time being. He’d sold his penthouse, and real estate in Manhattan was a battleground, so they were here temporarily. He was so happy to be in this city with the woman he loved. He saw that she was scared, and he said it was rare to see her like that. Ashland followed Victoria to the balcony. He understood how scary this was for her. He said she took a life-changing step away from her family, whom she’d been close to for her entire life. Victoria said this wasn’t the first time she left her family – she once moved to Italy for a whole year and didn’t speak to any of them. He said this was different because she also walked away from the top job at one of the biggest conglomerates on the planet. He thought it was courageous and it had to be scary. He remembered when he left his family – he’d been desperate to get away from his father, but it wasn’t easy. She went back inside and admitted it was unsettling. He said it would take her time to adjust, but they were going to take this city by storm. He made her smile when he talked about the amazing life they were going to have in NY. He said their home would have bedrooms for the kids, and maybe even Harrison would be able to visit some day. She knew the kids would love Central Park. He said they were going to build an innovative business that would rival Newman Enterprises.

Victoria and Ashland got takeout from his favorite hole in the wall place. It reminded her of their first trip to NY. He didn’t like wasting time, and he knew she didn’t either, so he had some ideas for their new venture. She said she had some strong opinions too. Firstly, she didn’t want the name Newman anywhere near their new company. She wanted to slap down Adam and Newman Media, so she wanted a media division. Ashland said they might be able to poach some of their former colleagues at Newman Locke and that would be an excellent way to stick it to Adam and Victor. She said she wanted to find a way to use her art background and bring fine arts into the digital age. He thought that sounded innovative. She said her father would probably hate that idea, but it was a relief to say she didn’t give a damn what he thought. Ashland loved hearing that. Victoria said she was finally out from under her father’s shadow and she could leave an indelible mark on the world.

Ashland wanted to toast. He said they survived and they were making moves to take the world by storm. He said without her family and his past weighing them down, they were finally free. She laughed with him, but when he was focused on pouring the wine, her smile faded and she just stared at him. He filled their glasses and they clinked cups and smiled.

Adam walked into his new office at Newman Enterprises. The CEO’s office. Sally wasn’t far behind. She wrapped her arms around him and remarked that this was his now. Sally said this was her first tine in the inner sanctum. She thought they’d have to redecorate though, she said, while looking at the portrait of Victoria. She asked if they should have his painting commissioned. He said that wasn’t his style. He’d rather look at a painting of Sally all day. She thought that might confuse visitors. He suggested some modern abstract art. She didn’t care if he hung up Dogs Playing Poker; anything but his gloating sister. He didn’t want the poker picture because that would just remind him of Billy. He enjoyed telling Billy about his promotion and rendering him speechless for once. Sally asked Adam about his first move. He took down Victoria’s portrait, and Sally said well done.

Sally asked Adam how it felt to be back where he belonged. It felt good. He thanked her for coming with him at this late hour. She understood why he wanted to come. She thought he deserved time to soak it all in before he took over the reins tomorrow morning. He loved how well she could read him. He wanted to celebrate, and she’d already planned for that with champagne. He noted that he brought her champagne to celebrate her promotion. She felt you could never have too much of a good thing.

Adam was sitting at his desk, and Sally was sitting on top of it. She thought it was time the christen this office like they christened the Newman Media office. He used the button on the desk to close the door, and they kissed. Later, she was wearing his shirt and sitting on his lap. He toasted to Newman Enterprises. She toasted to them and their new future.

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Summer: You look serious. Is everything okay?

Kyle: Most recent numbers for marchetti just came in.

Summer: Is it worse than we expected?

Kyle: Yeah. Last quarter was bleak. But I’m confident we can turn it around.

Summer: Good. I really want this to work out. Where do we start?

Kyle: Well, the biggest problem is with angelina’s coo, leonardo. She left all the business decisions up to him, and unfortunately, he made a lot of mistakes. So hopefully she is on board with replacing him once the sale goes through.

Summer: Actually, I just got off the phone with angelina. She just made a really big decision that opens up a whole new world of opportunities for us.

Diane: Thank you agreeing to get a cup of coffee with me before I head back to the athletic club.

Jack: We managed to get along at society. What’s a few more minutes?

Jill: Well, well, well. What have we here? I never in a million years would have expected to find the two of you together.

Jack: We had a few things to discuss. I take it this means that the launch party is over?

Diane: And I can assume the news of my resurrection preceded me, since you don’t look like you saw a ghost.

Jill: No, no, billy filled me in. Plus, I spotted you at the chancellor-winters event. I just didn’t want to interrupt nikki ’cause she was having such a good time giving you hell.

Diane: [ Chuckles ] And what, now it’s your turn? Go ahead, pile on. I’ve built up enough armor that I can handle whatever it is you want to dish out.

Jill: No, I’m not gonna rake you over the coals, because, actually, I am very impressed with how you managed to pull this off. Faking your own death so convincingly and then coming back here and facing the wrath of all these people who hate you?

[ Chuckles ] That takes more guts than actually dying.

Victor: From the look on your face, you were trying to reach victoria? Did you?

Nikki: She’s not picking up her cell. I just can’t believe she’s really gone.

Ashland: Welcome to our new home — at least for the time being.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Do you regret selling your penthouse?

Ashland: No, no, not at all. We’ll find something better. Maybe a townhouse this time.

Victoria: Hmm. Well, manhattan real estate can be a real battleground.

Ashland: Yes, it can, but we’ll conquer it together. With you by my side, we can do anything. I’m just so happy to be back here in this city with the woman I love, charting a whole new course for our lives, just you and me.

[ Chuckles ] Wow. It’s so rare to see you scared of anything. But this scares you, doesn’t it?

Sally: You did it. This is all yours now. The lows of bipolar depression

Diane: You’re right. Coming back here did take guts. The people in this town can be brutal.

Jill: Well, not that you didn’t deserve it.

Diane: Don’t get me wrong, i have deep remorse about my actions, and I — I don’t take any pride in having deceived so many people, especially my son.

Jill: Hmm. Well, take this advice — take whatever kind words you can get from wherever you can get them, okay? Because for many years, I had so much dirt hurled at me. I know what it’s like to be on the receiving end, okay? And it’s very hard to get past that, although for some people, it seems remarkably easy.

Jack: Oh, I can assure you — and diane knows this — I am far from being past everything she’s done.

Jill: Okay, listen, I didn’t really bring this up too much with you earlier ’cause it wasn’t the time or the place, but I have to ask you — how close are you really to this resurrected diane jenkins?

Diane: [ Scoffs ] Jack is barely tolerating me these days. He agreed to meet up with me so we could discuss some of my insecurities and questions about our son.

Jill: Okay, but you have to admit that anyone would be surprised to walk in here and see you having coffee —

Jack: It’s a process, jill. Diane wants to be reconnected with kyle, and I have decided not to get in her way.

Diane: And I thoroughly appreciate that.

Diane: [ Laughs ]

Jack: What? What’s so funny?

Jill: Oh, I was just imagining our younger selves at this moment. I mean, we’re being so mature and so civilized, right? That wouldn’t have been the case. There would be drinks hurled. There would be accusations thrown.

Jack: Yeah, you’re probably right about that.

Jill: And you two, you were like fire and ice, right? But now, you’re turning the page, you’re entering a whole new chapter. I guess that’s what happens when you’ve been through everything we’ve been through. I mean, it comes full circle, yes?

Jack: My, haven’t we become the philosopher?

Jill: Well, at this stage of my life, I mean, I just — it’s just foolish to hold grudges, isn’t it? To carry around hate, all that negativity. It can you eat you alive. We can’t change the past, so we might as well try to change ourselves, right?

Summer: Once the sale goes through, angelina wants to step down. The pressure has really been getting to her these past few years, and she’s afraid that she’s on the verge of burning out completely. She wants to take advantage of the sale and retire.

Kyle: What?

Summer: She’s ready to walk away.

Kyle: I — dad and I were wondering how our business styles would mesh, but now that she’s out of the picture, I —

Summer: The business is gonna be completely in jabot’s hands. We won’t have to run anything by angelina or worry about competing visions. She says that she trusts me implicitly not to tarnish the marchetti brand.

Kyle: Wow. That’s pretty high praise coming from someone so renowned in the fashion world.

Summer: Well, I’ve gotten to know her tastes, and I intend to make sure that the line continues to reflect her sensibilities.

Kyle: That’s what marchetti’s customers will want.

Summer: And this should help with our coo problem. We’ll be able to replace him without worrying about what angelina thinks.

Kyle: Hey, maybe you should take over.

Summer: I have no interest in the business side of the company. I’m perfectly happy being creative director. But it does mean that we’ll need to find a leader who has an excellent background in business and who can manage a large team.

Kyle: Yeah, and we need to start thinking about that person asap because once this sale goes through, we need someone who will hit the ground running. I know a couple of good executive search firms we can call.

Summer: No need to call anybody because I already know the perfect person to run marchetti.

Kyle: You do? Who?

Summer: My brilliant husband.

Adam: Although telling him about the promotion was a highlight of the launch. For once, the guy was speechless.

Sally: I wish I could’ve been there to see it. But I will be around for all of your triumphant moments from now on. So, mr. Ceo, what is your first move gonna be? Well done. And welcome to a whole new era of newman enterprises. (Becky) I started smoking when I was 16.

Victor: We always knew she was determined to leave with ashland locke.

Nikki: I know. It’s just that we left things on such a bad note.

Victor: Adam thinks that it’s a sign of weakness that she’s so easily succumb to ashland locke again.

Nikki: Well, this didn’t happen in a vacuum. I think we pushed her too much. I mean, with enough pressure, even the strongest person can break.

Victor: I disagree with that. We have always done what we thought was best for her.

Nikki: And I think that was the problem.

Victor: Why?

Nikki: She’s an adult. How much longer did we expect her to allow us to treat her like a child?

Victor: Forever, okay? She’s our daughter and always will be. We didn’t push her to do a damn thing. All we wanted is for her to accept the fact that ashland locke is a monster, and he will prove himself to be that again and again, over and over.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] I understand how scary this is for you. I do.

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

Ashland: I mean, you have just taken A…a huge life-changing step away from your family, a family that you have been so close to on so many levels for your entire life.

Victoria: It’s not the first time that I’ve left them. I once moved to italy for a whole year. I didn’t speak to any of them.

Ashland: But this is different. You also walked away from the top job of one of the biggest conglomerates on the planet. Now, that took a lot of courage, but it had to be scary, too. I can still remember when i walked away from my family all those years ago. And how desperate I was to get away from my father, to escape him. But it wasn’t easy. I can still remember the terrible feeling I had in the pit of my stomacH.

Victoria: I have to admit, it is a bit unsettling.

Ashland: Victoria, it’s gonna take time for you to adjust to this new life. But think about this — what a life it’s going to be.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ] We’re gonna take this city by storm.

[ Laughs ] We’re gonna go to big parties with fascinating people and go to museums and art galleries and the best restaurants in town, and we’re gonna have a beautiful new home with a view from the bedroom window — I don’t know — maybe overlooking the park or something, you know? Something that people would kill for. And, of course, a couple of extra bedrooms for the kids when they come to visit when school’s out. Maybe… maybe even harrison will be able to come and visit us someday. I don’t know.

Victoria: That sounds wonderful.

[ Both laugh ] I know — I know that the kids will love central park.

Ashland: They will. And think about this whole new business we’re gonna build — something new and innovative, something jaw-dropping. Something that will rival newman enterprises, believe me.

[ Chuckles ] We are going to be their worst nightmare.

Jack: Well, thank you for your pearls of wisdom, jill. I would love to stay and share stories of our spiritual growth, but it’s late and I have to get home.

Jill: Oh, no, diane, wait. Come on, it’s not that late and I’m not the least bit tired. So why don’t we stay and chat a little bit? I don’t get into town that often, and I would love to pick your brain a little bit.

Diane: About what?

Jill: I’ve always been fascinated by a really good back-from-the-dead story.

Diane: [ Chuckles ] You do realize I’m not a vampire or zombie, right? I didn’t actually die, so i don’t think there’s anything to talk about.

Jack: I was just about to offer diane a ride home to the gcac, where she is staying.

Jill: I get why you might have some trepidation, okay? But please remember that i didn’t make the list of suspects in your murder.

Diane: [ Sighs ] Why give your family just any eggs

Jill: I’m so glad you decided to stay.

Diane: Mm.

Jill: Thank you for keeping me company. Although, I have to admit, there are very few people in this town that would be willing to be seen with you in public besides me.

Diane: Uh, well, I appreciate your frankness, so I have a question for you.

Jill: Please.

Diane: I get the sense that this invitation is about more than tea and catching up. Am I right?

Jill: Oh, I’ve got to hand it to you. Death has not diminished your intuition.

Diane: [ Chuckles ] Should I be afraid there’s some poison in my cup?

Jill: No, no poison in your cup. But…

Diane: Ah, how did I know there was a “but” coming?

Jill: Well, I told you i don’t hold any grudges against you. That’s probably not true for everyone, and although I don’t get back to genoa city that often, I am fiercely protective of my family and my friends.

Diane: If you’re implying I’m some sort of threat, they have nothing to fear from me.

Jill: Well, in the spirit of our continuing frankness, most people in this town considered you to be kind of a nuclear bomb waiting to go off. But in spite of that, you seem determined to stay. So, please, I have to ask you — what are you after?

Kyle: You want me to step down as co-ceo of jabot and come over to marchetti?

Summer: What I’m suggesting is that you step down and take over marchetti as sole ceo. You would be the one in charge. You wouldn’t be co-running it with anyone else like you do with jack now.

Kyle: Yeah, but I can’t just abandon my job.

Summer: You wouldn’t be abandoning anything. We’d all be working for the same company. Look, I know that this is a big ask, but this would be my dream come true. Just think — we’d be working together again like we did at jcv. We were a great team. We could duplicate that magic at marchetti.

Kyle: We were pretty magical, weren’t we?

Summer: Just imagine what we could do on a much larger scale. Marchetti is a huge get for jabot.

[ Sighs ]

Kyle: I’m flattered you’d even think of me for this, but i have to give it some thought. It’s a big decision, and I need to talk it over with my dad, of course.

Summer: Take all the time that you need.

Kyle: But don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of us working together again.

Summer: I realize that I’ve sprung this on you out of the blue, and there’s a lot to consider. Or you could pitch it to your dad right now.

Jack: What’s going on?

Sally: So, how does it feel to be back where you belong? Top dog at your family’s cherished company, the pinnacle of your success.

Adam: You know, it feels pretty damn good.

Sally: [ Chuckles ]

Adam: Hey, thank you for coming here with me at this late hour.

Sally: I completely get why you wanted to. You deserve a moment to soak it all in before you take over the reins tomorrow morning.

Adam: I just — I love how well you can read me.

Sally: Well, I think we’ve already established that our minds have melded.

Adam: Oh, then you should already know what I’m thinking — now that we’ve done a little redecorating, I think we need to celebrate.

Sally: That just proves how in sync we are because I am way ahead of you.

Adam: Wait. I already brought you champagne for your promotion as ceo of newman media.

Sally: Okay, well, what’s good for the goose is even better for the gander.

Adam: Fair enough.

Sally: The way I see it, you can never have too much of a good thing.

Adam: Not tonight we can’T. We deserve to revel in this because we have finally got everything that we wanted.

Victoria: So this is what you meant when you said dining in one of the world’s finest restaurants. Kind of expected something grander than takeout from your favorite hole in the wall. Although it does remind me of our first trip to new york together.

Ashland: Okay, well, this is one of the best restaurants in new york. It just so happens that their cuisine comes in a brown paper bag is all.

Victoria: I’m not gonna argue with that. This looks amazing.

Ashland: Well, it is. Listen, I do have some, uh… some ideas for our new venture. I don’t like wasting time. I know you don’t like wasting time either.

Victoria: True. True, but I — I have some very strong opinions of my own about what our next move should be.

Ashland: Oh. Excellent. Let’s hear them.

Victoria: Well, first and foremost, I don’t want the name newman anywhere near our new company. So what’s going on?

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Victor: I know you’re still worried about victoria’s decision to leave, but she will not stay under his spell for long, I promise you.

Nikki: That’s what we thought when she found out he was lying about his illness. She didn’t leave him then. And I’m afraid she never will.

Victor: Well, don’t you worry, okay? I don’t think this whole “I’m in love with him” delirium will last. She’ll realize that he’s a monster. He’ll prove it to her again and again, and then she’ll come back, maybe with regrets, but she’ll come back.

Nikki: I wish I had your confidence.

Victor: Why don’t you have confidence in our plan? When she realizes that I’ve put adam back in the position to run newman enterprises, trust me, it’ll light a fire under her and she will be back.

Nikki: Well, I did approve of the plan, but the more I think about it, the more I’m afraid she’s just going to look at it as some kind of manipulation, and that’s what drove her away in the first place.

Victor: But it will have its desired effect.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] I don’t know. I mean, ashland is still such a big part of her heart, and a feeling like that doesn’t go away overnight. It seems like he’s the only one that she trusts or confides in, and that is going to make it that much easier for him to strengthen their bond.

Ashland: Well, given everything you’ve just been through, I can certainly understand why you don’t want the newman name associated with our new venture. We’ll figure that out. What else you got?

Victoria: [ Sighs ] I want for the company to be focused.

[ Clears throat ] And I would love to slap down adam and his newman media division, so I think that a media entity is definitely the way to go.

Ashland: I have a lot of connections in that area. We can start there. In fact, we might even be able to poach some of our former colleagues from what used to be newman/locke, and that would be an excellent way to stick it to both adam and victor.

Victoria: But I would like to do something, then, more than just a, you know, your standard media enterprise. I’d love to somehow be able to use my art background. You know, find a way to bring the fine arts into the digital age.

Ashland: Oh, I love the sound of that. It’s innovative, it’s fresh.

Victoria: My father, he will probably hate the idea, but I’m telling you right now, it is a load off my shoulders to say with 100% certainty that I do not give a damn what he thinks.

Ashland: I love hearing you say that.

Victoria: I know that I’ve said it before, but I mean it now more than I ever have. I’m finally outside of his shadow, and I am free to make my mark on the world. And believe me, it will be indelible.

Jack: If angelina marchetti retires, that would open all kinds of new doors for us.

Kyle: It would open a slot at the top of marchetti. A slot I’m thinking of taking.

Jack: Wait, really?

Kyle: It could be a real opportunity for me. I would have complete autonomy and a chance to make a mark solely on my own. I — I know you’d be proud to see me do that.

Jack: Of course I would. I just had no idea you would consider leaving your seat as co-ceo.

Kyle: I hope you don’t take this the wrong way. You know how much working together means to me.

Jack: It means the world to me, as well. Look, I could not be prouder that you are in such demand, and angelina deciding to step out of the picture provides a perfect opportunity for you to fly solo, a move I am absolutely convinced you are ready to make, but on the most selfish level, I don’t want to lose you at jabot.

Summer: Well, you wouldn’t really be losing him. He’d just be running a different division under the corporate umbrella.

Kyle: Yeah, well, I haven’t made up my mind. It’s just something I’m considering. Fortunately, I don’t have to make a decision tonight.

Jack: Yeah, I always say big decisions like this, it’s a good idea to sleep on them.

Kyle: Mm, speaking of big decisions, how did the chancellor-winters event go tonight? It must’ve gone pretty late if you’re just getting home now.

Jack: It was a spectacular launch, and they are going to give the competition a real run for their money. I’m telling you, this company is going to be a force to be reckoned with.

Kyle: Mm-hmm.

Summer: Sounds like quite the launch.

Jack: I wasn’t just at the party. I actually had a very pleasant dinner with diane.

Summer: That’s unexpected.

Kyle: I’m — I’m just glad my parents can spend time with each other and it not turn into a fight.

Summer: I bet you’d have rather gone out with my mom.

Jack: Phyllis has always been a great dinner companion.

Summer: That’s not quite a yes.

Jack: Well, phyllis is out of town, so it’s not an option, right?

Summer: What aren’t you saying? Just tell me — what happened between you my mom and diane and between you and my mom?

Diane: I am only after one thing. I am staying in genoa city to be close to my son, period. And I am putting up with all the threats and harassment from my many enemies in town for the privilege.

Jill: Come on, diane. You’re always playing an angle.

Diane: No, that was the old me. The person I am now would do anything to make up for the lost time I have with kyle. It’s not going to be easy, but I’m willing to sacrifice whatever it takes. You know, surely you must understand. Didn’t you have similar issues with your own son — lost years when billy was growing up?

Jill: No, no, no, that was a totally different situation. My son did not grow up thinking I was dead.

Diane: There it is again.

Jill: Look, I understand that you love kyle. You love your son. But it still seems like there’s something else. It seems like there’s something else you want going forward.

Diane: I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Jill: Well, correct me if I’mwrong, but I thought I detected a twinkle in your eye every damn time you looked at jack. (Vo) it’s yoooopllllaaaitiimmeee!!!

Diane: I mean, why would i want to complicate things by dredging up some romantic history with jack?

Jill: Ah, but, see, it didn’t look like history, the way you were hanging on his every word earlier.

Diane: Well, I —

[ Sighs ] Okay, I won’t deny a certain connection with jack. We do go way back, and we share a son, no matter how we feel about one another. But I’m sure you also noticed how jack is treading very carefully around me.

Jill: Yeah, but we’re not talking about jack’s inclinations. We’re talking about yours. Do you know he is probably the most eligible bachelor in the whole northern hemisphere? The man is charming and debonair, handsome, suave, rich, powerful. I mean, look, he checks off all the boxes.

Diane: Wow. All this intense interrogation. I wonder where it’s coming from, jill. Maybe you’re the one with your eye on jack.

Jack: All I’m gonna say is phyllis and diane are never gonna make peace. And that’s just the way it is.

Summer: But I know that something happened between you and my mom.

Jack: Summer, I know you mean well. If you have any further questions, run them by your mom. You know what? It’s late. I’m gonna turn in. I’ll see you in the morning.

Summer: Okay, it’s not just me, is it? You feel it too, right? What the heck is going on with our parents?

Kyle: It’s pretty obvious something happened between them, and it has to do with my mom, but if dad doesn’t want to talk about it, that’s his prerogative. And clearly phyllis doesn’t want to share either.

Summer: Okay, I get that our parents aren’t obligated to tell us every detail of their lives, but clearly something is wrong, and this tension is affecting the entire family. Look, I want to celebrate all of the good things that are happening to us, but then there’s still this dark cloud hovering over our heads.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] Please, just promise me you won’t blow this out of proportion.

Summer: We can’t just ignore our mothers’ dangerous histories. They are capable of broken bones, black mail, burning down pool houses.

Kyle: I’d like to think they’re way past that kind of behavior.

Summer: Sure, they’ve mellowed out for now, but i still can’t help but worry because anything is possible when those two get riled up.

Sally: So is there anything else I missed at the party?

Adam: Oh, there were some speeches filled with all the typical buzzwords and reporters asking the usual questions.

Sally: Yawn. To hell with the chancellor-winters launch. You becoming ceo is the blast-off that really matters.

Adam: You know what? That sounds like the perfect toast, but look, I’m out of champagne.

Sally: Wait. I have a better way to celebrate. We christened the newman media office. So we should christen this one, too. Well, that’s a fun perk.

[ Chuckles ]

Adam: I love you.

Sally: I love you.

Victor: We have a very willful daughter, and we both know where she’s got that from, right?

Nikki: Yes, we do.

Victor: Yes, and along with that goes stubbornness. That makes me afraid that she will have to crash and burn before she comes to her senses and realizes she made a colossal mistake.

Nikki: What if she doesn’t crash and burn? I mean, we can’t underestimate her.

Victor: Trust me, ashland locke will revert back to form. He’ll screw up again. Leopard doesn’t change his spots.

Nikki: Yeah, but we can’t count her out. She could be successful without him. I mean, with her talent and drive, she can do anything she wants. And then, if he betrays her again, she could kick him to the curb and still find great success and happiness without ashland and without her family. You love rich, delicious ice cream.

Kyle: Our mothers are a combustible combination. We should stay vigilant, but what else can we do? With our moms in different states, we should take advantage of the opportunity to relax.

Summer: My mom is going to come home eventually, and she is not going to be a happy camper if she finds jack taking diane out to late-night dinners.

Kyle: Okay, what do you want me to do? You want me to discourage my dad from being nice to my mom?

Summer: Of course not. You can’t do that.

Kyle: Well, hey, I know it’s not ideal that our mothers can’t stand each other, but we don’t get a vote in their lives or futures any more than they get a vote in ours. I think we sit back and let it all play out.

Summer: Okay. I guess you’re right.

Kyle: Meanwhile, I have a big decision to make. So how about we focus on our futures? ‘Cause from where I’m standing, it’s looking pretty phenomenal.

Diane: You have your own romantic history with jack. Someone hearing you sing his praises and question my intentions could easily assume that you have your heart set on a reconciliation yourself.

Jill: Now, see, there is a brilliant deflective technique. But you and I both know that i am not after jack. You, on the other hand, have many, many motives to want him back.

Diane: What motives? Could you please explain yourself?

Jill: Okay. Imagine yourself on jack’s arm. That would go a very long way to convince people in this town that you are worthy of forgiveness. If jack abbott, who has every reason to hate your guts, would pardon you for all of your sins, well, you’d be sitting pretty, wouldn’t you? From my perspective, that would be a masterful move. And you are the master of masterful moves.

Diane: [ Chuckles ] I don’t play those games anymore.

Jill: Hang on, hang on. As one former conniver to another, if jack were to say to you, “let’s give it another try,” would you say no?

Diane: Okay, if someday, somehow, something like that would happen [Sighs] I’d be a fool to turn him down.

Ashland: I think we deserve a toast, huh? I mean, look at us. We survived.

[ Laughs ] We’re still together against all odds, and here we are in this beautiful city, making a whole new plan to take the world by storm. I — everything just seems new somehow, and without your family and my past actions weighing us down, we’re finally — we’re finally free. Okay.

[ Clears throat ]

Victor: Do you really think i would ever allow our daughter to slip away?

Nikki: You have another plan in mind, don’t you? Something besides making adam ceo.

Adam: To newman enterprises.

Sally: To us. And our amazing new future.

Victor: I am simply waiting for ashland and victoria to make their next move. And when that happens, I will have more cards to play against ashland locke. Cards that will destroy that son of a bitch once and for all. Cheers.

Nikki: Cheers.

Devon: [ Exhales sharply ]

Lily: This party is a hit. I can feel the excitement in the air.

Devon: Oh, so can I. So can I. All that’s left is to deliver the goods and make this launch official.

Lily: Yeah.

Devon: You ready for this?

Lily: I think is the world ready for chancellor-winters?

Devon: I think so.

Lily: Oh, I know so.

[ Chuckles ] Well, let’s do this.

Devon: Let’s do it.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

[ Indistinct conversations ]

Jack: Her name is allie. And getting to know her has been an absolute godsend.

Jill: Oh. Oh.

Amanda: Hi.

Jill: Hi.

Amanda: Oh, I’m so sorry. Am I interrupting?

Jill: No, not at all. No, we were just finishing up here. I will leave you to it.

Jack: Yeah. I haven’t had a chance to congratulate you on your part in this massive endeavor.

Amanda: Oh, thank you. Thank you. There were a lot of very complicated legal matters involved in this merger.

Jack: Which makes your already-full plate that much fuller.

Amanda: Oh, yes, but I do love a challenge, so…

Jack: Well, at least devon is involved.

Amanda: Yeah. It does make a difference having the right person in your corner.

Jack: We should all be so lucky.

Abby: Excuse me, everyone. The main event is about to begin. I’m sure that everyone is very excited to hear what the senior executives of chancellor-winters have to say, so, please, let’s all head to the ballroom.

Nate: [ Clears throat ] It will be a great presentation. Definitely worth your while.

Imani: I’m sure it will be. Good luck — not that you need it, okay?

Victor: Where the hell is he?

Nikki: Don’t worry. Adam will be here. Your text said it was important, so he’s curious as to why. I’m sure he has his eye on the ceo position now that victoria has left.

Victor: Right.

Sally: Don’t worry, I will burn the midnight oil on this one. Trust me, it’s handled. Well, nothing like a cloud-server crash to wreck your night.

Adam: Well, I can stay here and I can help you deal with it.

Sally: That is very sweet of you to offer, but it does not take two people to oversee all the techies, and you shouldn’t keep your father waiting any longer.

Adam: Well, I just don’t know why it’s so important for me to go to this party. His text was so vague.

Sally: Well, there’s only one way to find out.

Adam: Yeah, I guess it would be a good idea to go and find out what lily and devon have planned.

Sally: Mm-hmm, yes. Gather all the intel you can and please have a glass of wine on my behalf.

Adam: Oh, I will. I’ll be back later with a full report.

Sally: Okay.

Abby: Hey, there.

Chance: Hey, baby. Just wanted to let you know we just wrapped up the case.

Abby: Oh, that’s great. How did everything go?

Chance: Oh, yeah, it couldn’t have gone better. I can’t wait to tell you about it. So should I head back to the hotel? Is the party still going on? I can meet you at home. I’m up for anything. You tell me.

Abby: Well, I’d love it if you came back here. The party’s just getting going, and the speeches are about to begin.

Chance: I’m on my way. I can’t wait to see you.

Abby: [ Sighs ] What the hell are you doing here? How many events do you have to crash before you realize that you are not welcome?

Lily: Good evening, everyone. I want to thank you all for coming to the launch of chancellor-winters. We are so thrilled to have you all here tonight. And tonight is the start of many exciting things to come. It’s just the beginning of a journey that is going to change the business landscape forever.

Additional sponsorship

provided by…

Abby: In case you’ve forgotten where the exit is, it’s right over there.

Diane: [ Scoffs ] Did phyllis hire you as her own personal bouncer?

Abby: Actually, I’m overseeing a party that you will not be attending. Bye-bye.

Diane: I wasn’t here for the party, but you should get used to seeing me around. I’ll be staying in genoa city for a while. And having to deal with hateful people like you will only make me stronger.

Abby: Really. Hmm. We’ll see.

Jack: It’s not gonna get easier anytime soon.

Diane: [ Sighs ] I know, but it’s okay, I can take it, because all I really care about is kyle. And, jack, when it comes to our son, I could use some brutal honesty. Do you think that I’m headed for heartbreak? Do you think that he’s going to ultimately turn his back on me the way I did to him?

Lily: Tonight is the celebration of two powerful companies becoming one. And it’s also a personal dream-come-true for me because I’m able to not only continue katherine chancellor’s legacy, but also my father’s, neil winters. And I know that at some point in the future, we will look back on this evening and realize that this was the start of something truly special. This merger could not have happened without the hard work and expertise of so many people, but I first want to acknowledge the owner and former ceo of chancellor, jill abbott.

[ Applause ] When I first approached jill about the idea of merging chancellor with hamilton-winters, I was very nervous because I knew I was taking a risk. But I think it just shows what an amazing businesswoman jill really is, because she understood my vision and she got behind it. And I am so honored to have her here tonight.

[ Applause ] I also want to introduce the company’s leadership team, which includes myself and my fellow ceo, devon hamilton, who’s also my brother.

[ Chuckles ]

Devon: Don’t you forget it.

Lily: Oh, I know. You won’t let me.

[ Chuckles ] But seriously, I’m so lucky and grateful that I have a brother who is such an amazingly creative executive and has one of the sharpest business minds I’ve ever come across. And I’m very grateful to work alongside with him.

[ Chuckles ] I also want to introduce our respective coos, billy abbott and nate hastings.

[ Applause ] See, I look at this company as more than a business venture. It’s a family, both figuratively and literally. Which I think just makes us even more formidable. So we are a team and we are united in our vision for the future of chancellor-winters. Thank you.

[ Applause ] Are you tired of clean clothes that just don’t smell clean?

Devon: So I would like to thank my sister lily for bringing this opportunity to me and for being so incredibly persistent in convincing me when I wasn’t completely sure about this merger.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: And the reason that she was that way is because she realized immediately what I now see, which is that this company is going to achieve great things. And I like to compare today to the christening of a ship on its maiden voyage, since we know exactly where we’re going, we’re excited to get there. However, we are not ready to hand over the map just yet. But we do hope that you all will sit back and enjoy the ride with us.

Can you be more specific about the direction of the new company?

You may not want to share the route. Can you at least tell us the ultimate destination of this ship you’re steering?

Devon: The destination I can say will be an unexpected but exciting one.

At least tell us about your first few projects.

Devon: Well, we’re not gonna be revealing any details at this time, but I assure all of you that we have very exciting things in the works.

Why did you drop your name and your mother’s from the company?

Devon: Well, actually, the name hasn’t been dropped from the company. We’re gonna be rebranding lp into hamilton streaming as a tribute to my mom. So the hamilton name will definitely live on at chancellor-winters.

Diane: I’m asking you about kyle because you know him better than anyone. Do you think all these haters are finally going to get to him and turn him against me?

Jack: I think this is a longer conversation. I am missing the presentation right now.

Diane: Oh, I’m sorry.

Jack: I’ll tell you what, i will take you up on your offer to meet you at society and I’ll get out of here as quickly as i politely can.

Diane: Thank you. I appreciate your insight.

Abby: Ugh.

Chance: Hey. Was that —

Abby: Diane, yes, in the flesh.

Chance: Wow. I was wondering when I was gonna run into her around town.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Chance: What is she doing here? She wasn’t invited, was she?

Abby: Oh, no, of course not.

Chance: Then why’d she show up?

Abby: Look, I don’t know. All that matters is that she’s gone now. Yes, and without her, I don’t want to jinx it, but this could be the first event at the grand phoenix where nothing major goes wrong.

Chance: That’s ’cause you’re running the show, honey.

Abby: Oh, look at you, with all the compliments and finishing your case early. You’re doing everything right tonight.

Chance: Turned out to be a good night, huh?

Abby: Let’s get in there.

Devon: So now at this time, i would like to bring to the microphone, my coo, nate hastings.

[ Applause ]

Nate: Thank you, devon.

[ Sighs ] I am so proud to be a part of this company, not just because i get to work with family, but because of the groundbreaking things I believe we will be able to accomplish. And in the vein of groundbreaking, I’d like to go a little off-script. Answer the reporter’s question earlier about some of our future projects. Regarding our podcast division, chancellor-winters will be launching not one, not two, but 50 new podcasts in the coming weeks. And the first one is gonna take the true-crime genre by storm.

Devon: What is he doing?

Lily: I don’t know.

Nate: Each podcast will have a unique take on a specific topic, covered in a way we have not seen before. They will vary in length and frequency depending on the content, but I promise you this, each and every one of them is going to be spectacular.

You never know

what opportunities

Nikki: That presentation was very impressive.

Lily: Thank you.

Victor: Your father would be very proud of you.

Devon: We appreciate that. Thank you.

Lily: Yeah, thank you. We really hope that katherine and our dad would approve.

Nikki: Well, you know, a while ago, when you asked me what I thought katherine would do in your situation, I really wasn’t expecting anything as ambitious. But you really embraced the way katherine lived her life through this merger. Blazing a bold new trail. I’d like to be the first to say bravo to both of you.

Lily: Wow. Thank you, nikki.

Devon: Yeah.

Lily: That really — that really means a lot to me.

Devon: Especially coming from two people who share ownership in one of our biggest competitors, ’cause I know that going toe-to-toe with newman media is not gonna be easy, to say the least.

Victor: Not gonna be easy.

Nikki: Alright, well, we’ll let you mingle. It’s your evening. Have a wonderful time.

Lily: Thank you. Good night.

Devon: Take care.

Abby: Oh, I’m happy to have a break from supervising the party.

Chance: Well, the night went off without a hitch. Good job, baby. I’m proud of you.

Abby: Oh, thanks, but phyllis and the whole chancellor-winters team, they did a lot of work leading up to tonight, so…

Chance: Yeah.

Abby: I’m just glad it all went well. Are you still thinking about that arrest you made earlier?

Chance: Oh, yeah, maybe a bit. I’m sorry.

Abby: No, no, that’s okay. Tell me about it.

Chance: Yeah? Well, you know, went down in pretty classic style. Guy had no idea we were coming till it was too late. Blood was pumping, danger was in the air, you know?

Abby: Danger? I don’t know if I like the sound of that.

Chance: Oh, no, no, it was all fine. Trust me. I mean, everything went together perfectly. I just — I wish I could tell rey about it. You know, doing all this for him. Another one of his cases closed.

Abby: Well, I’m sure this gives you some closure, too.

Chance: Yeah. Yeah, it sure does. But it’s more than that, you know? I feel like I’m getting my groove back. No second-guessing myself, no last-minute nerves — nothing like that. I mean, today felt like I was meant to do this. I haven’t felt like that in a long time.

Abby: Well, I’m glad that everything went well, but I do have to admit, I’m a little concerned about the risk part. I mean, how much danger was actually in the air?

Chance: No, it’s not that scary because when I’m on my game, there ain’t no issue, alright? I mean, I’m thinking on my feet. I know exactly what I need to do. Just got to trust I got justice on my side.

Abby: Yeah.

We’re please we finally get some specific information about the company, since mr. Hamilton and ms. Winters didn’t give us much.

Nate: Listen, I already told you guys, I spilled some of our secrets. I am not giving them all away. You’ll just have to stay tuned for the rest. If I were you, I would start to regularly check out our social media. Now, let me cut this short before I say something i shouldn’T. Hey. Hope you liked my speech.

Devon: It was definitely unexpected.

Victor: Well, I’m glad you finally showed up, son. Hope you put out whatever fire was ablaze at newman media.

Adam: Sally and I did.

Victor: Good.

Adam: She’s finishing up the last of it so I could be here. She really stepped up.

Victor: I’m glad you’re out and about. You should be seen like a mogul. Which you have become now.

Adam: Okay, thank you for that.

Victor: I’m gonna make an announcement tomorrow morning saying that you will be the new ceo of newman enterprises.

Adam: [ Exhales sharply ] The lows of bipolar depression

“The young and the restless”

will continue. (Lucky) uh-oh the magic’s disappearing!

Adam: [ Exhales sharply ] Dad, uh…I don’t know what to say.

Victor: It’s simple. Say you want the job.

Adam: Yeah. Yes, yes, very much. Just was a little caught off-guard. I…I can’t wait to get started. I’ve got a ton of ideas on how to take the company to new heights. And I know that you have done an excellent job as victoria’s co-ceo, so I look forward to working with you and sharing the title.

Nikki: Oh, that actually won’t be happening. Victoria and I were a team, and I can’t envision having the same working relationship with you, so I’ll be stepping back to my coo position.

Adam: Well, whatever you want, of course.

Victor: Well, that’s actually a good thing, you know. That way, the ceo title will be entirely yours.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] How can I argue with that, right? Well, I appreciate the vote of confidence. I won’t let you down.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

[ Clears throat ] Hi. How did the rest of the launch go?

Jack: It went well. I think chancellor-winters is going to be a force to be reckoned with. But that is not your primary concern right now, is it?

Diane: [ Sighs ] Thank you for meeting with me here. You’re really the only person i can talk to about this. It’s just, um, all my doubts and fears regarding kyle are back in full force, and I —

[ Sighs ] I would just love to get your opinion about the situation.

Jack: Honestly, I don’t think you need to be worried. As I see it, you’re not wasting your time.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Jack: Kyle has given me every indication that he genuinely… he’s warming to you and wants you back in his life again.

Diane: Oh, I am so happy to hear that and I’m so relieved. I thought that when you said that — that you would meet up with me — I was just worried that you were going to give me bad news. Okay.

[ Sighs ] This makes dealing with the rest of this town a bit more manageable. It gives me hope. And maybe eventually…you’ll even find a way to tolerate me.

Nate: I know I gave up a bit more information than you probably expected.

Devon: It was a little more than a bit.

Nate: But I went with my gut, and I think it paid off.

Devon: Hmm.

Nate: People were hungry for details, any kind of specifics. And giving them a taste just made them hungrier. Look, I apologize for calling an audible, but I am convinced it was the right move. You know I felt all along that we should say more at this launch.

Devon: Yeah, I’ve known how you feel for a while.

Nate: If I’m being honest, i only said a quarter of what i wanted to say.

Devon: Oh, I believe that.

Nate: Look, you can’t deny that the people are excited and still dying to know more about this company.

Lily: Yeah, look, I hate to admit it, but, nate, you were right.

Billy: The investment group from seattle that you just did that photo op with, they are now very interested, and that executive gwen you two had a meeting with a couple days ago, she’s now 100% on board.

Nate: In today’s world, where we’re so saturated with decentralized news sources and social media, people need a way to distinguish the real from the hype. We gave them enough to let the world now chancellor-winters is ready to deliver.

Billy: Well, I’ll raise a glass to that.

Lily: Yeah, me too.

Devon: Well, I guess everything turned out for the best this time. After years on the battlefield

Imani: You did an amazing job, nate. You did the right thing taking my advice.

Nate: You think so, huh?

Imani: You should listen to me more often because I’m usually right.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] Noted. I’ll admit, I was nervous, like we talked about earlier. I always am when I’m giving speeches.

Imani: It didn’t show. You were charismatic, just like you were when you were working on askmdnow.

Nate: Well, that was easier because I didn’t have to look into the eyes of a bunch of people live.

Imani: [ Chuckles ] You are being way too humble — an instinct I really don’t understand because you are an engaging and persuasive speaker. I could tell how impressed everyone was. In fact, I think there were a few women who swooned a little in the crowd.

Nate: Oh, come on now.

Imani: Mm-hmm. Seriously. People weren’t impressed because you’re debonair. They liked what you had to say.

Nate: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: My true feelings about you and your relationship with kyle are irrelevant. I’ve said it before, I am staying neutral. If this is some kind of facade, though, if you have some ulterior motive, I promise you will live to regret it.

Diane: [ Sighs ] I don’t know what I can say to make you believe me. But it’s not a facade. It’s not an act. And you know what’s exhausting? What’s exhausting is trying to hold my head up high around this town while people are lobbing grenades at me. It makes it even more difficult to focus on what’s important to me, and that is kyle.

Jack: I don’t feel sorry for you.

Diane: I’m not asking you to. This is a hard time for me, okay? But I will get through it. And, uh…especially now that you confirmed that there’s still hope.

[ Sighs ] But, jack, there’s something i want to apologize for.

Jack: No, you’ve done that.

Diane: No, no, I want to apologize for something else.

[ Sighs ] I feel like my presence in town might have caused phyllis’ sudden departure, you know, at a time that the two of you were coming together romantically.

Jack: I am not going to discuss my relationship with phyllis in any way, shape, or form with you. Understood?

Diane: Okay. Understood.

Adam: Well, I can’t wait to hit the ground running tomorrow.

Victor: Congratulations, son.

Adam: And just to be clear, does this mean that sally is gonna be running newman media?

Victor: Yeah.

Nikki: Please tell her congratulations on our behalf. We should be leaving. Good night.

Adam: Good night.

Billy: Hey, there. Hope you’re having a good time.

Adam: I am. Thank you.

Billy: Little surprised to see you here.

Adam: [ Clears throat ] Why is that? I like to keep an eye on the competition, and you did invite me.

Billy: Yeah, we did. Yeah, lily and I thought it was only fair since you invited us to newman media’s launch.

Adam: It does have a similar vibe. Same venue, lot of the same people.

Billy: Yeah, except we’re gonna skip the shenanigans with the ice bucket. Anyway, listen, I hope you’re not feeling too threatened with all the attention that chancellor-winters is getting.

Adam: Oh, hardly. I know that our launches may have been similar, but our companies cannot be more different. And you have no idea how the tides have turned.

Billy: Think you might have had a few too many drinks, because you’re not acknowledging the headwinds that newman media’s about to face with chancellor-winters in the game.

Adam: I welcome it. So bring it on. Because from here on out, newman media is not gonna be a stifled division under victoria’s thumb. It’s gonna have the power of newman enterprises in its entirety behind it.

Billy: Am I supposed to understand what the hell that meant?

Adam: Okay, well, I will make it crystal clear. Starting tomorrow, I am gonna be ceo of everything newman. So while you are busy selling off divisions to make room for entertainment, media, and commercial real estate, I might be busy buying up some of them and become bigger, better, and stronger. Nice party, though. Thanks for the invite.

Imani: I hope I’m not intruding. I wanted to introduce myself. I’m imani benedict.

Jill: Oh, you’re amanda’s sister.

Imani: Yes, that’s right. I just wanted to tell you how excited I am to work at chancellor-winters with lily and devon and that nate is doing an incredible job. Matter of fact, this launch party was all his idea.

Jill: Really? Well, yeah, I know nate.

[ Chuckles ] I’m aware of his brilliance. He operated on my grandson years ago.

Imani: You get it.

Jill: I do.

Imani: He excels at everything he tries. Is there anything that man can’t do?

Jill: [ Chuckles ]

Amanda: Well, hello, hello. I am so glad that the two of you got a chance to meet each other. Unfortunately, I need to borrow my sister for a second, if that’s okay.

Jill: Oh, no problem.

Amanda: Yeah, I did bring you some company.

Jill: Company.

Amanda: Come on, sis.

[ Chuckles ]

Jill: Hi, honey. Tell me something. Does nate hastings live with elena dawson?

Chance: Yeah, he does.

Jill: Ooh, wow. Elena better watch out for that one.

Imani: What are you doing? I thought part of tonight was about networking, and I was talking to someone who is very important.

Amanda: I know, and I saw you, but we don’t want to come on too strong. And I saw that giancarlo has been alone most of the night, so maybe you should go over there and keep him company, hmm?

Imani: You are not worried about giancarlo. You’re still stuck on your thing about me and nate.

Amanda: Oh, honey, I am not the one who is stuck. And I’ve already told you — stay away from nate. He doesn’t need you praising him to jill, and I do suspect that if you had known that elena wasn’t gonna be here tonight, you might have turned giancarlo down, huh? So you can put the moves on nate. So let me warn you — keep your distance from nate for the rest of the night.

Imani: Listen, I love you, but I am getting sick and tired of you trying to tell me how to lead my life. You’re the one who needs to back off.

Diane: You got to admit, this wasn’t so bad, was it? Sharing a meal and some non-combative conversation.

Jack: Oh, I think your definition of “non-combative” might be a little skewed.

Diane: [ Chuckles ] You’re right. Let’s just say it was at the low end of the range.

Jack: [ Chuckles ]

Diane: Oh. Looks like my respite’s over. No matter who you are,

Nikki: Twice in one night. This cannot be my future.

Diane: Relax, nikki, we’re finished and I’m leaving.

Jack: I’ll walk you out before any more grenades are lobbed in your direction. Good night.

Diane: Thank you.

Nikki: Now, why would jack be spending time with diane? And how are people like her and ashland so easily forgiven?

Victor: Good question.

Nikki: [ Sighs ]

Adam: I’m back.

Sally: You stole champagne from the party for me? I’m so touched.

Adam: Actually, I bought it, because it is a very special occasion and I did not want to go for the cheap stuff that lily and devon sprung for, so…

Sally: What is going on?

Adam: Guess why my dad was so desperate to talk to me.

Sally: Because he finally succeeded at his goal of literally taking over the world?

Adam: Eh, even better, especially for us.

Sally: Well, I don’t know. I’m stumped. Just tell me.

Adam: You are looking at the new ceo of newman enterprises.

Sally: Oh, my god, you did it! Congratulations!

[ Laughs ]

Adam: And — and I am looking at the very beautiful new ceo of newman media.

Sally: What?

Adam: Yes, not only was I put in charge, my dad promoted you, so congratulations.

Sally: Oh, my god, this is everything we wanted.

Adam: Well, it didn’t go exactly as we expected, but we pulled it off. I mean, we make a pretty incredible team.

Sally: Well, we should commemorate this moment.

Adam: And how do you suggest that we do that?

Imani: Sorry we didn’t get much time to hang out and talk tonight. I’ll admit, I was trying to work the room a bit.

Giancarlo: I completely understand. This was a business function.

Imani: Mm-hmm, I saw you doing your fair share of networking, as well. Though you may have spent a bit too much time with claire from accounting for my liking.

Giancarlo: Oh, you’re jealous.

Imani: No, I don’t get jealous.

Giancarlo: Well, you feel like catching up now? I don’t mind extending my evening. How about a nightcap?

Imani: Mm. Normally, I would, but I’m exhausted. I think I’m just gonna head off to bed.

Giancarlo: Thinking of me?

Imani: If you’re lucky.

[ Door opens ]

[ Door closes ]

Nate: Hey.

Elena: Hey.

Nate: I’m sorry to wake you.

Elena: Don’t apologize. I want to hear all about the party. How did it go?

Nate: [ Sighs ] Well, tonight surpassed my wildest expectations.

Elena: Wow. Mm, I hope you took a lot of pictures. I want to see all the glitz and glam I missed.

Nate: Oh, there are plenty of photos I can show you, but what is most important is I took a risk and it paid off.

Elena: Oh?

Nate: I went a little rogue with my speech, got into some specifics devon didn’t want to discuss.

Elena: How’d that go over?

Nate: Really well. It generated a lot of buzz, even lily had to admit I was right all along.

Elena: And what about devon?

Nate: He seemed good with it. But I feel like I am in the exact right place at the exact right time.

Elena: Aww. Well, I’m glad you had such a perfect evening.

Nate: Not quite. You weren’t there by my side.

Devon: There you are.

Amanda: Thank you.

Devon: Mm-hmm. Well, I’d say tonight was quite the success.

Amanda: Mm.

Devon: Even if nate has potentially proven to be a handful.

Amanda: Oh, he’s still getting his footing. Remember, this is all very new to him.

Devon: Yeah, I’d like to think that’s all it is and everything’s gonna be okay.

Amanda: Okay, stop it. Stop looking for trouble. You had a tremendous night. And guess what.

Devon: Mm.

Amanda: Your night’s not over yet.

Devon: Oh.

Billy: I hope you are basking in tonight’s success.

Lily: Oh, I definitely am.

Billy: And to hell with adam and the company that he snagged by default.

Lily: Please, I haven’t even given him a second thought.

Billy: [ Sighs ] That’s why I adore you. You did good tonight. You scored a huge achievement, and I am humbled to be in your presence.

Lily: Oh, how humbled?

Billy: I’ll show you in about an hour from now.

Lily: Okay, I’m gonna hold you to that.

Billy: I hope so.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Honestly, though, I couldn’t have done this without you.

Billy: I appreciate you saying that, but I was here to support you. I really didn’t have much to do with tonight’s success. This — all of this — was all you, baby.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Recap written by Christine

Devon and Lily were in the ballroom preparing for their speeches. They were happy about how well the party went and excited for the rest of the night.

Out in the lounge, Jack and Jill talked about Chancellor Winters. She spoke approvingly of the merger and told him to imagine if all business deals were done this way – with respect, equality and admiration. He grinned and said it sounded boring. They reminisced about the way they did business in the old days, knocking their foes down and having fun doing it. Jill said Devon and Lily were much nicer people than she and Jack were. She shifted gears and said she heard Diane rose from the grave. He guessed one of his siblings told Jill. Jill said you couldn’t keep something like that secret – besides, she saw Diane here tonight, and she noticed that Nikki was horrified. Jill didn’t understand why Jack had been so civil with Diane tonight. He said this wasn’t the time or the place. She’d heard the craziness with Diane brought him to the granddaughter he never knew he had. Her heart was with Jack over the loss of his son, but what a gift the granddaughter must be. Jack beamed and said getting to know Allie had been a godsend. Amanda came up to talk to Jack, so Jill drifted off.

Jack congratulated Amanda on tonight. He was sure that it was nice to work with Devon. She said it made the right difference having the right person in your corner. She brought up Phyllis. Amanda wasn’t taking sides, and she hoped Jack was okay, but it sounded like Phyllis made a mistake, and she was very sorry about it. Jack was sorry too.

Abby asked everyone to join her in the ballroom. Imani wished Nate luck, adding that he didn’t need it. As Nikki and Victor exited the lounge, he wondered where Adam was. She was sure he’d be there, since he must be curious about what Victor had to say to him.

Adam fixed his tie, at his office, while Sally was on the phone trying to fix a server issue. He offered to stay and help, but she figured he shouldn’t keep his dad waiting. He didn’t see why it was so important for him to go to this party. Victor’s text had been so vague. He supposed it would be a good idea to find out what Lily and Devon were planning. She kissed him goodbye, and he said he’d be back later with a full report.

Chance called Abby to tell her he was finished with the case. It went really well, and he was going to meet her at the hotel for the rest of the party. After the call ended, Abby spotted Diane and yelled at her for crashing the event. Jack overheard. Diane asked if Phyllis hired Abby as a personal bouncer. Abby said she was running a party that Diane wasn’t welcome at. Diane said she wasn’t here for the party, but she’d be staying in town for a while, so Abby had better get used to it. Diane said that dealing with hateful people like Abby made her stronger. “We’ll see,” Abby said. She walked off. Jack approached and told Diane things wouldn’t get easier any time soon. She said she could take it because she only cared about Kyle. Diane asked if Jack thought Kyle would eventually turn his back on her the way she did to him. She worried that the haters were going to get to Kyle. Jack didn’t want to discuss this now. He said he was missing the presentation. She apologized. He told her he’d meet her for dinner later tonight.

Chance was startled to see Diane leaving the hotel as he entered. He asked Abby about it. Abby didn’t know why Diane came, but she was gone now. Abby didn’t want to jinx it, but this could be the first event at The Grand Phoenix where nothing went wrong. He said it was because Abby was running things.

In her speech, Lily promised that tonight was the beginning of exciting things to come that would change the business landscape forever. Lily said tonight was a personal dream because she was getting to carry on the legacies of Katherine and her father, Neil. She acknowledged the owner and former CEO of Chancellor, Jill Abbott. Everyone clapped. Lily said Jill was an amazing businesswoman who understood her vision and got behind it. Lily introduced her fellow CEO, and brother, Devon. She felt lucky and grateful to have a brother who was such a creative executive and one of the sharpest business minds she knew. She introduced their COOs, Billy and Nate. She said this merger was more than a business venture – it was a family. They were a team and they were united in their vision.

Devon gave his speech. He thanked Lily for convincing him to do this merger. He said she realized immediately what he now saw – that this company was going to achieve great things. He likened this event to the christening of a ship – the team knew where they were going, but they weren’t ready to hand over the map just yet. Nate looked disappointed. The reporters asked for some specifics, but Devon would only give vague assurances that they had exciting things in store. A reporter asked Devon why he dropped his name and his mother’s from the company. Devon said that they were rebranding LP as Hamilton Streaming, so the name wasn’t dropped.

Devon handed the floor to Nate. Imani was in the crowd watching expectantly. She smiled in approval when Nate said he was going to go off script and answer the reporter’s questions about some of their future plans. Nate revealed that Chancellor Winters would be launching fifty new podcasts, each one with a unique take on a specific topic. Lily, Devon and Billy all looked tense as Nate did his own thing.

After the event, Nikki and Victor told Lily and Devon that they were impressive tonight. Nikki recalled that, awhile ago, Lily had asked her for insight on how Katherine would handle things in Lily’s shoes. Nikki thought that Lily really embraced the way Katherine lived her life with this merger – blazing a bold new trail. Devon appreciated the sentiments, especially because Newman Enterprises would be one of their biggest competitors.

Abby was glad the party went well. Chance was sorry – his mind was still on the arrest. Abby asked him to tell her about it. He said it went down in classic style – blood was pumping and danger was in the air. She didn’t like the sound of danger, but he said it was all fine. He wished he could tell Rey about it. He felt like he was getting his groove back. He felt like he was meant to do this, tonight, and he hadn’t felt like that in a long time. She asked again about the danger in the air. He reiterated that there was nothing to worry about.

Nate was surrounded by a gaggle of reporters hoping for more details, but he said he wasn’t going to spill everything tonight. Imani was with her date, Giancarlo, but she was looking at Nate. Nate cut things short and approached Devon. Nate defended his speech. He went with his gut, and he thought it paid off. People were more curious before the speech, and now they were even more interested after getting a taste of what was to come. He apologized for going off script, but he was convinced it was the right move. Nate said he’d only shared a quarter of what he’d wanted to say. Lily and Billy came up. Lily hated to admit it, but she thought Nate was right. She and Billy had heard from some other people who reacted positively to Nate’s decision to share some specifics. Billy said that executive, Gwen, that Devon and Nate met with a few days ago, was now 100% on board.

Lily, Billy and Nate seemed pleased, but Devon was more subdued. Everyone toasted to Nate, with Devon grudgingly stating that he guessed it all worked out for the best, this time. Imani found Nate alone later, and told him he did the right thing taking her advice. He admitted he was nervous, which he always was when giving speeches. She said that it didn’t show. She thought he was being too humble, and she didn’t understand it because she thought he was an engaging speaker who made a few women swoon with his speech. Amanda came up and saw Nate and Imani.

Adam showed up at the hotel and met with Nikki and Victor. Victor hoped Adam put out whatever fire at Newman Media that kept him from coming earlier. Adam said that Sally was finishing up the last of it. He stated that she’d really stepped up. Victor said that tomorrow, he’d make an announcement that Adam was the new CEO of Newman Enterprises. Adam beamed. He said he was a little caught off guard, but he had a lot of ideas. He looked forward to being co-CEO with Nikki. Nikki said she and Victoria were a team, and she couldn’t imagine having the same working relationship with Adam, so she’d be stepping back to her COO position. Adam accepted that. Victor said it was a good thing, because this way the CEO title would be entirely Adam’s. Adam smiled and said he appreciated the vote of confidence.

Adam asked if this meant Sally would be running Newman Media, and Victor said yes. Nikki and Victor left. Billy walked up to Adam and said he was surprised to see him there. Adam noted that he’d been invited. Billy said he and Lily thought it fair to invite Adam, since he invited them to Newman Media’s launch. Adam thought the launch parties had a similar vibe – same venue and a lot of the same people. Billy said that they were going to skip the ice bucket shenanigans. Billy bragged about Chancellor Winters posing a challenge for Newman Media. Adam said that Newman Media would no longer be a stifled division under Victoria’s thumb – it would have the power of Newman Enterprises behind it. He said that tomorrow, he’d become CEO of Newman Enterprises. Adam said while Chancellor Winters would be busy selling off divisions, he might be buying them to become bigger, better and stronger.

Imani introduced herself to Jill and sang Nate’s praises. Jill said she knew Nate – he operated on her grandson years ago. Imani said Nat excelled at everything he tried. Amanda strolled over with Chance. She said she needed to borrow her sister, but she brought Jill company. Amanda and Imani left. Jill asked Chance if Nate lived with Elena. Chance said yes. “Elena better watch out for that one,” Jill said of Imani.

Imani wanted to know why Amanda stopped her from networking with Jill. Amanda said that she noticed Giancarlo was alone. Amanda also felt that Nate didn’t need Imani praising him to Jill. She suspected that if Imani had known Nate would be here alone, she would’ve turned Giancarlo down. Amanda ordered Imani to keep her distance from Nate for the rest of the night. Imani loved Amanda, but she was tired of the orders. She told Amanda to back off.

Imani apologized to Giancarlo for not spending a lot of time with him tonight. She said she’d tried to work the room a bit. He understood, since this was a business function. She said she saw him networking too, but she thought he spent a fair bit of time with Claire from accounting for her liking. He asekd if she was jealous, and she said she didn’t get jealous. He inited her to get a nightcap, but she said she was tired, so she was going to bed. He asked if she’d be thinking of him. “If you’re lucky,” she said. He smiled and left.

When Nate got home, Elena was sleeping on the couch. She woke up and asked about the party. He said it surpassed his wildest expectations. He said he went a little rogue with his speech, and it paid off, and even Lily had to admit he was right. Elena asked how Devon was. Nate thought his couin seemed good with things. Nate felt like he was in the exact right place at the exact right time. Things would’ve been perfect if Elena had been there.

Devon and Amanda went home. He was happy about their evening, except he thought Nate was potentially proving to be a handful. Amanda was sure that this was just Nate finding his footing in the business world. Devon hoped that was all it was. Amanda told him to stop looking for trouble. She was sure everything would be fine. She told him the night wasn’t over yet, and they kissed.

Lily and Billy were still at the hotel. He told her to hell with Adam, and the company he snagged by default. She said she hadn’t given Adam a second thought. He thought she did good tonight. He was going to show her how he felt about an hour from now. She said she couldn’t have done this without him. He told her that this success was all hers. They hugged, and he looked troubled.

At Society, Diane fixed her hair when she saw Jack heading inside. Jack assured Diane that Kyle indicated that he was warming to her and wanted her in his life. Diane wept tears of joy. She said that made dealing with the rest of the town more manageable. She suggested that eventually, Jack would find a way to tolerate her too. He told her again that he was staying neutral, but he said if this was a facade, she’d regret it. She wasn’t sure what to do to get him to believe her. She was exhausted trying to hold her head up high while the townspeople were lobbing grenades at her. He didn’t feel sorry for her. She wasn’t asking for pity. She said she’d get through this, especially after he confirmed that there was still hope. Diane was sorry because it seemed that her presence in this town caused Phyllis to leave at a time when she and Jack were getting closer. Jack refused to discuss Phyllis with Diane.

Diane told Jack that tonight wasn’t so bad – a meal and a non-combative conversation. He thought her definition of non-combative might be skewed. She laughed. Diane was annoyed when she saw Nikki and Victor walk in. Nikki was also dismayed. Diane and Jack were done, so they left. Nikki didn’t understand why Jack was spending time with Diane or why people like Diane and Ashland were so easily forgiven.

Sally was delighted when Adam returned with champagne. She thought he stole it from the party for her. He said he bought it for a special occasion and he wanted something better than the cheap stuff Devon and Lily sprung for. He told her she was looking at the CEO of Newman Enterprises, and he was looking at the beautiful CEO of Newman Media. She was thrilled. He said this didn’t go exactly as expected, but they pulled it off. She suggested they commemorate this moment, and they shared a kiss.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Devon: Oh, chancellor-winters.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Definitely has a ring to it, doesn’t it?

Devon: Well, I actually thought that “winter-chancellor” would have sounded a little better. It’s got a better ring to it. We can still change the name if you want.

Lily: Relax, alright? Amanda, do something with this man, please.

Amanda: I would love to.

Devon: Mmm.

[ Laughter ]

Amanda: But a huge congratulations to both of our fearless ceos and to everyone else who helped us get to this point.

Nate: All the planning and meetings have paid off.

Lily: I know. When we’re working long hours, a few weeks from now, overdosing on caffeine, let’s remember this moment — right? — And how much we love and trust and support each other, ’cause that’ll get us through anything.

Devon: Yes.

Lily: So, to my family.

Nate: Hear, hear.

Lily: Which is what we all are now.

Devon: That’s right.

Lily: Cheers.

Devon: Cheers.

Amanda: Cheers.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Abby: Wow! Ladies, you look incredible.

Lily: Thank you.

Abby: And, men, you look as handsome as ever. How excited are you about tonight?

Devon: We couldn’t be more excited for tonight.

Nate: Life is good, other than the fact that elena got called into the hospital.

Abby: Oh, no, that’s too bad.

Imani: I would have refused to miss something this important.

Nate: That’s not the way it works when you’re a doctor.

Amanda: Yeah, it’s not the way that it works. But, anyway, I really hope that you get a chance to enjoy your night, too, abby.

Abby: Are you kidding me? I love this stuff. All of the moving pieces, the details — a million things that could go wrong, but it will not, because I am on top of it. I will not let you down. You couldn’t let us down. It was amazing for you to step up and coordinate last-minute like this.

Abby: Well, it was my pleasure. Your newly merged companies happen to be run by my favorite people in the whole entire world, and I promise tonight will be flawless, just like you deserve. I have eyes on everything, so i personally guarantee that this event will be front-page news for all of the right reasons.

Devon: Yes.

Abby: Now, I’m gonna check in with the staff before your guests arrive.

Lily: Thank you, abby.

Devon: Thanks, abby.

Amanda: Thank you.

Devon: So, hey, where’s your coo?

Billy: Oh, she has arrived.

Jill: [ Laughs ]

Devon: Hey!

Billy: Let the party begin.

Devon: So good to see you!

Jill: So thrilled to be here. What a momentous occasion.

Devon: Aww.

Jill: [ Sighs ] I got to tell you guys, i wouldn’t miss this night for anything in the world!

[ Laughter ]

Devon: Mmm. [ Chuckles ]

Jill: So good to see you.

Devon: Good to see you, too.

Jill: [ Chuckles ] Look at you. Now, I realize that everybody here is very excited about tonight, okay? But I just wanted to take a few minutes to tell you what’s been in my heart ever since lily broached the topic of this merger. What a bold and savvy business move.

[ Light laughter ] Oh, my lord. And I’m sure it’s gonna be very financially advantageous to all of us. Okay?

Imani: Hear, hear, mm-hmm.

Jill: And I love a high profit margin, and I love creating a powerful, new company, but [Sighs] It means so much more because it’s family.

Devon: Amen. And for neil’s children to be coming together like this, your bond is so much bigger than business. And if everybody puts their heart and soul into their work like this, that, my friends, is when you become truly unstoppable. I am so proud of you. Proud of all of you. And I can’t wait to see what the future holds for chancellor-winters. To beautiful beginnings.

Nate: Yes. To chancellor-winters.

Imani: To a promising future.

Amanda: To new challenges.

Billy: And enjoying the journey.

Lily: Yes. Cheers.

Amanda: Cheers.

Imani: Cheers.

Lily: Well, if I may say something [Chuckles] Before everyone in the press arrives, thank you, jill, for that. That’s beautiful. Um, today is really the culmination of something very special for me. And it started when devon created the business with our dad, and then jill entrusted chancellor to billy and me. And, nate, our debonair cousin,

[Laughs] You made this huge career change to join us, and I’m so happy you had the support of elena. And, amanda and imani, my gosh, you guys found each other as sisters, and now you’re colleagues, and you’re joining us on this amazing journey. And we really wouldn’t be here without each and every one of you. I know that our love and support and trust and generosity with each other will definitely take us to new heights. And you know, we’re part of each other’s history and intrinsic to each other’s futures. So I hope that we will lift each other up through challenges and celebrate each other’s successes, and handle business in a way that makes our parents and our children proud. Right?

Jill: Mm-hmm.

Devon: Absolutely.

Lily: So, uh, let’s give the next generation something to live up to.

Devon: Yes. Hey, let’s get this party started, everybody.

Lily: Chancellor-winters! Cheers.

Devon: Cheers. More protection,

[ Indistinct conversations ]

Chance: Well, hey, there, beautiful.

Abby: Oh.

Chance: Mmm.

Abby: Hi, yourself, handsome.

Chance: Well, looks like things are off to a smooth start, yeah?

Abby: So far, so good. The music’s all set, the champagne is chilling.

Chance: Mmm.

Imani: [ Sighs ]

Imani: Giancarlo.

[ Chuckles ]

Giancarlo: Wow. You look fantastic. I hope I’m not late.

Imani: Oh, no, you’re right on time. I’ve been looking forward to getting to know you better, and this is the perfect opportunity.

Giancarlo: You know, I wasn’t sure if you’d agree to join me.

Imani: I’m full of surprises. You got to be fearless, giancarlo. You miss all the shots you don’t take.

[ Sighs ]

Giancarlo: Hmm.

[ Footsteps departing ]

Jack: I got to say, I have never seen the grand phoenix look more opulent.

Lily: I know. I mean, we figured if we were gonna go big, might as well be tonight. Right? [ Chuckles ]

Jack: Well, you made this all happen. How do you feel?

Lily: I feel great. When I think about where I was a few years ago, compared to now, I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.

[ Chuckles ]

Devon: Jack.

Jack: Hey. I was just congratulating lily, saying I wished you all nothing but the best.

Devon: Thank you very much. We appreciate that.

Jack: This is a very exciting time.

Devon: It really is. Really is. Do you have a second?

Lily: Uh, what’s going on?

Devon: A photographer would like a minute with us.

Lily: Uh…

Jack: This is what the party is about. Go, go, enjoy.

Lily: Okay. [ Chuckles ] We’ll catch up later.

Jack: I’ll look forward to it.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: Yeah.

Jack: Have you and victoria discussed the possible repercussions?

Billy: We have. I’m sure you remember, I’ve always wanted her to break free from the family and go live the life that she’s always wanted.

Jack: Of course.

Billy: Well, she’s doing that. She’s leaving it all behind — victor, her family, newman enterprises, all of it. And she’s going back to locke.

Jack: Wait. Are you serious? After everything that man put her through?

Billy: She has made up her mind. She says she’s in love, and she’s leaving town with him for good.

Nikki: Now, remember, we’re here to celebrate chancellor-winters. That’s our only focus.

Victor: I’ll be the perfect guest, okay? But I need to get ahold of adam before the evening is out.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] Victor, can’t that wait?

Victor: No, it can’t, sweetheart. He’s about to become the new ceo of newman enterprises.

Jill: Well, well, well.

Nikki: Ooh, there you are. Congratulations.

Lily: Hello!

Devon: Mrs. Newman. Mwah.

Victor: Devon.

Devon: Mr. Newman, how are you?

Lily: Thank you so much for being here.

Jill: I was wondering if i would see the two of you tonight.

Victor: Well, I always inspect the competition, you know, especially if it’s run by two people close to my heart.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: Aww.

Victor: Been thinking a lot about your dad. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

Devon: No, definitely not.

Victor: [ Sighs ] Now you’re about to embark upon the enormous venture. You know?

Devon: Yeah.

Victor: And, uh, it fills my heart with pride. And I’m sure that neil and katherine are up there, looking down on you and wondering if you’re either brave or crazy.

[ Laughter ]

Devon: Well…

Victor: Or both?

Devon: Right.

Lily: Yeah, maybe.

Victor: It takes both, you know…

Devon: Yeah.

Victor: …To captain a ship of this enormous size, chancellor-winters, but you’ll do well.

Devon: Thank you.

Lily: Thank you, victor.

Nikki: We’re here to celebrate your growing empire and that you’re doing it as a family.

Devon: Yes.

Victor: And don’t forget, whatever failures or whatever successes you encounter, the bond between the two of you is the most important. Cherish it. Don’t ever let go of it, okay?

Devon: We’ll never let go.

[ Laughter ]

Devon: So, that’s pretty much how we came together and started this new venture.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Jill: You know, chance, if you wanted to join the family company, I’m sure that devon and lily could find a beautiful role for you to play.

Chance: Well, I am more than happy with being back at the gcpd, but, hey, maybe dominic can work here when he gets home.

Jill: [ Chuckles ]

Chance: Although he does have newman-abbott ties, so he’s gonna have some options.

Jill: [ Chuckles ] How is my favorite little man? He was taking a nap when i arrived at the house. I want to spend some quality time with him while I’m in town.

Abby: It is important, spending time with the people you love, isn’t it?

Chance: Mmm, sure is.

Jill: Boy, you two are clearly mad for each other. And you, my boy, are glowing. This is very nice to see.

Chance: I’m feeling — I’m feeling good. I have my amazing wife to thank for that.

Abby: Mmm.

[ Cellphone vibrates ]

Chance: Hmm. I better take this.

Abby: Oh.

Chance: Hold on. Yeah?

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Chance: Hot damn. I have been waiting to hear that. Yeah, yeah, give me a few minutes. I’ll get back to you. They got another break in one of rey’s cases.

Jill: Oh.

Abby: Oh, um, does that mean that you have to leave?

Chance: Uh, I know how important tonight is for everyone.

Abby: You know what? And we know how important your job is to you, so go. See this through.

Jill: She’s absolutely right, darling. We can catch up later. I’ll tell everybody where you went, and I’m sure they’ll understand that protecting our fair city takes precedence over anything else.

Chance: Are you sure?

Abby: Yeah.

Chance: Alright, thank you. I owe you.

Abby: Mmm. I will add it to your tab. Do you think you’ll be back before the party is over?

Chance: I will try, i promise. I love you.

Abby: I love you. Be careful.

Jill: I love you, chance. Mm. Oh, will you look at that. There is a ceo over there that used to be a rival of chancellor. I think I’ll just kinda float over there and say hello and remind him what a powerful company chancellor-winters is gonna be.

Abby: Well, have fun.

Jill: Thank you. I will.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

[ Indistinct conversations ]

Jack: Hey, you.

Abby: Uncle jack, hi.

Jack: I just chance leave. Everything okay?

Abby: Uh, he’s taken on more than his normal caseload recently.

Jack: Is there some crime wave I should know something about?

Abby: No, no, nothing like that. Rey was working on some cases before he died.

Jack: And chance is closing them. Wow. Noble work.

Abby: Yeah, it’s a tribute to rey. But I hope he closes these cases quickly, because I do miss having him around the house.

Jack: Well, you are two very busy people.

Abby: Tonight, I will not have time to miss anyone, because I am filling in for phyllis.

Jack: What?

Abby: Mm-hmm.

Jack: W-wait, how could that come to be?

Abby: She reached out to me before she left. And I know it’s pretty crazy, considering there was a time that she would do anything — anything — to keep the control of the hotel out of my hands.

Jack: It’s just not like her to leave devon and lily in the lurch like that.

Abby: Excuse me. They are in very good hands. Very well taken care of.

Jack: You are an expert at making important evenings go well.

Abby: Yeah. And besides, who else has a vested interest in upstaging phyllis and making sure that devon and lily have the best event ever.

Jack: I’m sorry I said anything. You are the perfect choice.

Abby: Although I do have to be honest, phyllis and her whole team and then everyone at chancellor-winters, they did a great job planning this party. It practically runs itself.

[ Sighs ]

Jack: It isn’t just that you went back to your old ways. It was the ease and fluidity with which you transformed from new phyllis into old phyllis in the blink of an eye!

Phyllis: Yes, I realize that I did that. I know. I have a pattern. I get it. [ Sighs ] I apologized. I can change. I know that. I can change. So I will be a better person for you. And all — all of my lousy habits and lousy behavior — that’s in the past.

Jack: I don’t want you to change. You can show remorse. You’ve done that before. You can plead for another redo. How many times have we done that in the past? I can’t do this. I made it clear months ago, when there was a hint that we might be traveling down a romantic road, that I would almost rather die than be hurt. I meant that.

Phyllis: I mean, it was just one mistake.

Jack: No, it was so much more than that! We have been working for months, carefully, thoughtfully, lovingly, to rebuild trust — trust in each other, trust in ourselves as a couple. You threw that out to get an edge on diane! You say you want to change. You can’t change. And I can’t do this! I’m done!

Phyllis: What, after all of this, this is the end? Really?

Jack: This is the end. Goodbye.

[ Indistinct conversations ]

Nate: Alright, guys.

Reporter: Mr. Hastings, could I speak to you for a moment?

Nate: Yeah.

Reporter: Okay, I’d love to get some clarification on something.

Nate: Okay.

Reporter: So, this leap that you made from medicine into business, talk to me about that.

Nate: Well, there was an accident that made it impossible for me to continue to perform surgery, so I pivoted into the administrative side of medicine.

Reporter: Hmm.

[ Elevator motor whirring ]

Phyllis: Oh, devon, I have your hardware here. It’s beautiful. I love the design of this. I was gonna bring it up to your room.

Elena: Devon! No! What are you doing?!

Phyllis: [ Gasps ]

Nate: [ Sighs ]

Reporter: Before the accident, had you ever contemplated going into business?

Nate: Never in a million years.

[ Chuckles ] That accident changed everything.

Reporter: Hmm. There are times, I wonder…

Nate: My career trajectory is an illustration of the old adage, “when one door closes, a better one opens.” Uh, I thought I was destined to be a surgeon, but when lily offered me a chance to join her at chancellor-winters, I thought it was time to take my life in a completely new direction.

Reporter: No regrets?

Nate: Lily and devon had enough faith in me to think I’d bring a fresh and interesting perspective to the table. I’m nothing but grateful. I can’t describe what it’s like to be able to work with family, operating on an even playing field where everyone’s opinion is equal and matters.

Reporter: Mm.

Amanda: [ Chuckles ] Well, you two look like you’re having a good time.

Imani: But not too good. I know how this company frowns on excitement.

Giancarlo: Oh, really?

Imani: Mm-hmm.

Amanda: She’s kidding, she’s kidding. Tonight is an important night, but you can have some fun, get to know each other.

Imani: That’s what we’re doing.

Amanda: Great.

Imani: Yeah, we’ve been playing some games to break the ice. Right now, it’s “truth or dare.”

Giancarlo: [ Chuckles ]

Imani: I’m just kidding. No, giancarlo and I are having a perfectly pleasant pg time.

Giancarlo: It’s a tremendous evening for the company.

Amanda: Well, it is wonderful that you decided to come together, and I am very, very happy that you are here.

Victor: Where the hell is adam?

Nikki: He probably thinks it’s just another gala, so he’s dragging his feet. Or he’s dreaming up some new project to impress you with.

Cellphone voice: At the launch party. Important for you to be here.

Victor: “Something came up. Will be here soon.”

Nikki: Ohh. Well, I think he’d move a little faster if he knew he was on the brink of getting everything he’s ever wanted.

Victor: Yeah.

Jack: Nikki, you are looking especially lovely.

Nikki: Oh, well, thank you, jack.

Victor: Stop flirting with my wife.

Nikki: Oh.

Jack: She is looking especially lovely. You know, I was just reflecting how nice it is that while we are here to celebrate genoa city’s newest corporation, some of us know about the giants on whose shoulders this was all built.

Victor: Yeah.

Nikki: Katherine.

Jack: And neil.

Victor: They would be very happy.

Jack: Yes, they would. This is quite a party.

Nikki: Mm.

Victor: And judging by all the press that’s around here, i have a feeling this launch will be the headline in all the business sites.

Jack: To be honest, I’m a little surprised to see you here.

Victor: Why? You don’t think that we can handle the competition? Think again.

Jack: Oh, no, not at all. I just thought the two of you might be engaged in matters more personal. Billy shared with me that victoria left town with locke. I wanted him out of here, but not that way.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Nikki: We’re still stunned by her decision.

Victor: Let us just hope and pray that our daughter, sooner rather than later, will realize that she made an epic mistake. Talking about mistakes, I hope you and kyle don’t entertain the thought of keeping diane jenkins around.

Jack: I have nothing to do with this. Kyle decided he wanted his mother to stay in town a bit longer.

Nikki: Oh! Offering a woman like that a second chance? That’s like giving a cobra a second chance to strike.

Victor: Hmm.

Nikki: Let me tell you something. The longer she feels there is a prayer for forgiveness, the more emboldened she will feel.

Jack: Diane is kyle’s mother, nikki.

Nikki: Well, kyle may be blinded by love or a misguided sense of obligation, but the rest of us are not. We know exactly what she’s capable of. But she can’t keep that up for long. The minute she drops that innocent façade, look out. Excuse me. This is a private party. You’d better turn around and go back out that door. Now. From the very first touch.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Diane: I am completely mortified. I had no idea there was a private party here tonight.

Nikki: Spare me. The publicity, the posters, the sign at the front door of the hotel? It is impossible to not know.

Jack: I’ll take it from here.

Nikki: I’m gonna make sure that you don’t ruin it. Jack, I’ve got this.

Jack: No, we don’t want to make a scene.

Nikki: Fine. Maybe you can get through to her.

Diane: Thank you for rescuing me.

Jack: I did it for devon and lilly, and you better get out of here in the next 30 seconds, or she’s gonna come back and drag you out of here.

Diane: Jack, I’m telling you, okay, I knew there was a launch tonight, but I didn’t pay attention to any of the details.

Jack: So, what are you doing here?

Diane: Well, I figured, with phyllis out of town, it would be the perfect time to use the spa.

Jack: You are a guest at the athletic club, where they have state-of-the-art facilities.

Diane: Um, but they’re missing one thing — astrid from oslo. She is a miracle worker, and the sauna with the sizzle of the steam and the heat, it is just so much better than that newfangled infrared business.

Jack: You’re dressed awfully nicely for a visit to the spa.

Diane: Well, thank you. I was going to have dinner after, at society. You could join me. I would love to talk to you about how things are going with kyle.

Jack: I don’t think so.

Diane: Alright, maybe some other night.

Billy: Diane.

Diane: Uh.

Billy: Did not expect to see you here.

Diane: I am an accidental crasher, and I am not here to cause any problem, so you don’t have to threaten to kick me out in front of everybody.

Billy: Oh, that’s not what i was gonna say. Not at all, actually.

Abby: Um, take care. Hey.

Lily: Hello.

Abby: Is everything running smoothly?

Lily: Yes, everything is perfect because of you.

Abby: Oh, nice. Well, doing this for you and devon, it just feels right.

Lily: It really does. It’s nice to have a friend involved. And who better than jill’s granddaughter-in-law to oversee a party celebrating chancellor’s merger?

Abby: Yeah, I just wish that chance hadn’t been called away on a case.

Lily: Do you ever wish that he’d joined the family business instead of the police force?

Abby: No. No way. Chance loves to fight for justice and help people. And he never had any interest in chancellor. He was born to do exactly what he’s doing.

[ Chuckles ]

Chance: How soon can we get a judge to sign off on the search warrant?

Cop: Depends if he’s willing to work late tonight.

Chance: [ Sighs ] If we can get that evidence, which we have every right to believe is in that house, we can go ahead and arrest that son of a bitch, get him off the streets.

Cop: It’s a damn shame rosales isn’t here. But good on you for closing this case. Be proud of you.

Chance: Yeah. First, he’d give me all kinds of hell, right? Tell me how he could have done it better. Then, and only then, would he pull us aside and tell us, “damn good job.”

Cop: Us?

Chance: Yeah. I ask captain to put you on this with me. Rey — he trusted you. So do I.

[ Cellphone buzzes ] Ah, here we go. Tell me we got the warrant. Well, alright. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hell, yeah. We’re ready to move. Alright. Let’s roll. My name is trisha.

Diane: If you’re not here to throw me out of your party, I cannot imagine what you want to say.

Billy: I still believe that you deserve a second chance, which is why I wish I could ask you to stay.

Diane: But it’d be too much, too soon?

Billy: Big night for us. We got a lot riding on it.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Billy: Even if you grew a halo and sprouted wings…

Diane: My very presence could cause drama. I understand, billy. I’m leaving anyway.

Nikki: Oh, my god, haven’t they made it clear enough to you that you’re not wanted here? Do we need to call security and have you escorted?

Billy: That will not be necessary, nikki.

Diane: I have no intention of staying, especially when I have an appointment at the spa. Good night.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] No good can come from that situation. I mean, I feel bad for kyle. But one way or another, that woman’s got to go.

Victor: Diane jenkins… you’re making a fool of yourself. Do you honestly think anyone around here has forgotten what you did?

Diane: Well, that’s only fair because I haven’t forgotten what was done to me, either.

Victor: Oh, yeah?

Diane: But forgiveness doesn’t require forgetting.

Victor: Hmm.

Diane: Only compassion.

Victor: Hmm.

Diane: Have a nice night, victor.

Victor: Was I really ever married to her?

Diane: Do I need to remind you, we were married once? Happily. And I’ll never forget the connection I had with your family, and in times like these, families pull together.

Victor: This family has done extremely well without you. Okay?

Diane: [ Scoffs ]

Victor: How long do you plan to stay here?

Diane: Just a little while. As I said, I heard about what happened, and I wanted to express my condolences in person.

Victor: Really?

Diane: Hmm. You know, I’m not really a bad person, victor. And I don’t believe in carrying grudges.

Victor: You’re the last person that I expected or wanted to see. However, I do agree with you, holding grudges is not healthy.

Diane: Well, then… there might be hope for us yet. Oh, boy.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

[ Glass touches table ]

Jack: I can only do what i can do. Nikki, diane’s gone.

Nikki: [ Sighs ]

Jack: Let’s change the subject. Let’s get back to the reason that we’re here. Speaking of which, I have to go talk to jill. Take care, okay?

Nikki: Yes.

Jack: I’ll be back.

Nikki: Yes, yes, of course.

Billy: Well, that could have went worse.

Nikki: Um… I understand you’re aware of victoria’s plans to leave with ashland.

Billy: Yeah. I’m aware. And it’s killing me thinking that she’s going to tie herself to that man.

[ Sighs ]

Nikki: Then convince her to stay.

Billy: Believe me, nikki, I tried. I tried everything I could, and I failed.

Lily: Hello.

Billy: Hey.

Lily: Hi, nikki.

Nikki: Hi.

Lily: Are you having a good time?

Nikki: Oh, yes, I am. I’m so thrilled for you.

Lily: Thank you. Uh, would you mind if I stole my coo for a moment?

Billy: [ Chuckles ]

Nikki: No, not at all.

Lily: Okay.

Billy: Have a good night.

Woman: Yeah.

Devon: Alright. Hey, hey.

Nate: Hey.

Devon: How you doing?

Nate: Just, uh, thinking about that speech.

Devon: Yeah? Well, don’t worry too much about it. You’ll be fine.

Nate: Alright.

Devon: Alright?

Nate: [ Sighing ] Hmm. Abby?

Abby: Well, look at you. After all of these years of knowing you as

dr. Nate hastings, this whole coo thing is gonna take some getting used to.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] Here’s a visual reminder. Dr. Nate wore a white coat. Executive nate, business attire.

Abby: Okay, so, the clothes make the man, huh?

Nate: [ Chuckles ] You, of all people, understand the importance of fashion.

Abby: [ Chuckles ] But, seriously, I thought being a doctor was your calling.

Nate: Hmm.

Abby: I was talking about this with lily earlier that law enforcement is at the core of who chance is. And I thought medicine was the same for you.

Nate: Uh, it used to be, when I was a surgeon, but

[Inhales deeply] When I lost that, it changed everything.

Abby: I’m sorry, I didn’t realize.

Nate: No, no, no, no, it’s okay, it’s okay. It’s the last thing I want to be dwelling on tonight. It’s just, uh, being here at another big winters family event brought back some memories.

Abby: Oh, that’s right. This is where it all happened.

Nate: But if I’m in a bit of a mood, it’s because I got to give a speech. And, uh, you know, giving speeches is one of the biggest fears out there.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Nate: [ Chuckles ] I’m just a little nervous my speech won’t measure up to lily and devon’S.

Abby: I cannot imagine you being less than amazing at anything.

Nate: Well, thank you for that vote of confidence.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Nate: If, uh — if elena was here, I would have gotten her full pep talk, but since she’s not, I appreciate you listening.

Abby: Well, I am a mediocre substitute, at best.

Nate: Don’t be so modest. You know what? You might be the perfect person to ask about something that’s been on my mind. I know you used to work for newman.

Abby: Oh, man. Yeah. Don’t remind me. I definitely have found my bliss in the hospitality biz.

Nate: But you have business experience. And our current plans for tonight’s speeches are to give a vague outline of what chancellor-winters has planned. But… won’t that leave the public confused? I mean, wondering what we’re hiding? Uh, shouldn’t we get into more specifics, is what I’m saying? What do you think?

Abby: Well, I mean, I think it’s something that you should talk about with devon and lily.

Nate: I’ve already discussed it with them, and devon is adamant that we stick to the broad overview.

Abby: Okay, well, there’s your answer.

Nate: But this merger is just thrusting us into the spotlight, and I don’t think it’s time to play it safe.

Abby: Look, nate, I get why it bugs you. But I really do think you should follow devon’s lead on this. He’s been doing it for a long time. He knows what works.

Nate: I suppose. Better skin from your body wash?

Billy: You know, if, uh, this is what happens when the ceo asks the coo for a business meeting, we’re gonna have to warn our partners.

Lily: Well, making time for you is very important business.

Billy: You know how proud I am of you.

Lily: Aww. It was a group effort.

Billy: Well, not necessarily. This is your vision. All of this, you made happen. And I am 100% convinced there is nothing that you can’t accomplish.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: [ Clears throat ]

Billy: Yeah.

Devon: Sorry to break this up, guys.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: The publicist wants to go over our speeches.

Lily: Uh…

Billy: Go, go. Go be great.

Lily: Okay, um, nate’s gonna say something. Do you want to say a few words?

Billy: No, no, you are the one from chancellor that people want to hear from, so this is all you. Go shine.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Giancarlo: Hey.

Billy: Oh, hey. Giancarlo, how are you? Listen, I am glad I ran into you. I want to thank you. The marketing team absolutely killed it tonight. This is really — really, really good stuff. I appreciate it.

Giancarlo: Your podcast division has been kicking butt.

Billy: [ Chuckles ]

Giancarlo: The numbers for “the grinning soul” look especially good.

Billy: Yeah? Well, hey, who knows who that guy is, but I’m glad to hear that. Have a good night.

Lily: Okay, quick, how do I look?

Devon: You look like a woman who’s ready to take over the world.

Lily: [ Laughs ] Okay, I’m gonna check in the mirror anyway.

Devon: I’ll catch up to you in a bit.

Lily: Okay.

Devon: [ Sighs ]

[ Indistinct conversations ]

Imani: Nate. Aw, that frown can only mean one thing. You need more imani.

Nate: [ Chuckles ]

Imani: [ Chuckles ]

Nate: Is that so?

Imani: Oh, I am in my element. I love everything about tonight.

Nate: Me too. Oh, so, what’s the deal with you and your date?

Imani: Uh…

Nate: Office romance?

Imani: I haven’t decided if he’s worthy of me yet.

Nate: [ Chuckles ]

Imani: So, are you ready for your big speech?

Nate: Ready as I’ll ever be.

Imani: I’m not sure that’s true.

Nate: Meaning?

Imani: Well, I’ve been thinking about everything we talked about earlier, when you said you thought we were missing out on an opportunity.

Nate: My gut’s still telling me that.

Imani: Then you should listen to it. If you can’t trust your instincts, then what can you trust? You should go ahead and paint that picture you want to paint.

Nate: Really? Even though our fearless leaders disagree?

Imani: [ Sighs ] Tonight was never supposed to be a big tease. People want to hear everything that chancellor-winters has to offer, so you should dazzle the crowd.

Nate: You honestly think that’s a good idea?

Imani: One shot — that is all you get. Show them who we are. Hit ’em with everything you’ve got.

Nate: You know what? You’re right? To hell with holding back. I’m going with my gut.

Imani: That is the most exciting thing I’ve heard all night. I can’t wait to see you make your mark.

Recap written by Christine

It was the day of the Chancellor Winters launch party. Lily toasted to her team, adding that they were all family now. Lily, Devon, Nate, Imani and Amanda were there. Abby walked up. She was planning the event. Nate said Elena got called into the hospital. Imani said she would’ve refused to miss an event this important, and Nate and Amanda told her that it didn’t work that way when you were a doctor. Abby promised them a great night. Billy arrived with Jill on his arm. She hugged Devon. Jill thought the merger was a bold and savvy business move, and it meant so much more because it was family. She marveled about Neil’s children coming together like this. She was so proud of all of them, and she couldn’t wait to see what the future held for Chancellor Winters. Lily said today was the culmination of something special that started when Devon created a business with their dad, when Jill entrusted her and Billy with Chancellor, and when Nate joined them. She was glad he had Elena’s support. She added that Imani and Amanda found each other as sisters and joined the team. Lily knew their mutual love and support would take them to new heights. She said they were part of each other’s history and intrinsic to each other’s futures. She hoped they’d handle business in a way that made their parents and children proud. Everyone toasted.

Chance kissed Abby when he arrived. Since the party was going smoothly, she figured they could have that date night he owed her starting right now.

Nate was nearby when Imani’s date, Giancarlo arrived. Giancarlo admitted he wasn’t sure Imani would agree to join him tonight. She told him he had to be fearless, but as she talked to him, she was keeping an eye on Nate.

Jack chatted with Lily and Billy. Lily remarked at how far she’d come. Devon came and pulled Lily aside to deal with a work issue. Billy was happy Jack came. He raised an eyebrow when he learned that Jack found out about Phyllis’s vacation through Summer instead of through Phyllis. Jack brushed it off, saying he and Phyllis were both adults who didn’t need to get lost in the minutiae of each other’s lives. Billy thought it would be nice for Jack and Phyllis to get lost in the minutiae of each other’s lives. Jack scoffed about getting relationship advice from Billy. Jack changed the subject and asked how Billy and Victoria were dealing with Locke’s decision to stay in town. Billy said he always wanted Victoria to break free from the family, and now she was doing it and going back to Locke. Jack was shocked.

Victor and Nikki arrived, and she quietly reminded him that they were just here to celebrate Chancellor Winters. He promised to be the perfect guest. However, he did need to get a hold of Adam before the evening was out, since he was about to become the CEO of Newman Enterprises. At that point, Lily, Devon and Jill walked up. Victor said Devon and Lily were close to his heart. He’d been thinking a lot about their dad. Victor was proud of Lily and Devon, and he was sure Neil and Katherine were looking down on them. He was sure they’d do well. He told them that their bond was more important than any failures or successes.

While Devon and Lily gave an interview, Jill was across the room with Chance and Abby. Jill tried to get Chance to join the family business. Chance was happy with his job, but he said Dominic might want to join when he was old enough. Chance added that Dom was a Newman and Abbott too, so he’d have options Jill wanted to spend time with Dom. Jill commented approvingly about how lovey-dovey Abby and Chance were. She thought her grandson was glowing. Chance gave credit to Abby. He got a call about a break in one of Rey’s cases, and both ladies were in support of him going to handle it. He promised to try and come back before the party was over. Jill saw an old business rival and went over to say hello.

Jack joined Abby and asked about Chance leaving. Abby said he was taking on an extra work load because he was finishing Rey’s cases. Abby said she was taking over for Phyllis tonight. Abby was surprised that Phyllis asked her to do anything for the hotel. Jack said it wasn’t like Phyllis to leave Devon and Lily in the lurch. Abby said they were in good hands with her, and she had a vested interest in upstaging Phyllis and making sure Lily and Devon had the best night ever. Abby said Phyllis, her team and the team at Chancellor Winters did a great job setting up the party, and it was practically running itself. Jack flashed back to his recent blow up with Phyllis, when he told her they were through because she’d fallen back into her old pattern.

Devon overheard Nate giving an interview. The reporter asked Nate why he pivoted into business from medicine. Without going into detail, Nate said he had an accident that ended his surgical career. Devon flashed back to punching Nate, which lead to the cut on his hand, preventing him from doing surgery anymore. Nate told the reporter that the accident changed everything. The reporter asked if he had regrets. He was nothing but grateful for the opportunity his cousins gave him. He said he was working with family, where everyone’s opinion was equal.

Amanda approached Imani and Giancarlo and commented that they looked like they were having a good time. Imani said they weren’t having too good of a time, as she knew how the company frowned on excitement. Amanda assured Giancarlo that Imani was kidding. Amanda told Giancarlo how happy she was that he was here, and then she exchanged a look with her sister.

Adam sent Victor a text saying that something came up, but he’d come soon. Jack walked over and complimented Nikki’s look. Victor told Jack to stop flirting with his wife. Jack said that they knew the giants whose shoulders this new company was built on – Katherine and Neil. Jack was surprised Victor and Nikki were here and not dealing with personal matters. Jack said Billy told him Victoria left town with Ashland. Jack wanted Ashland to leave, but not like this. Victor hoped and prayed Victoria soon realized she made an epic mistake. Victor also hoped Jack and Kyle didn’t entertain the thought of keeping Diane around. Jack said he had nothing to do with it, but Kyle decided he wanted his mother to stay around a little longer. Nikki groaned that offering Diane a second chance was like giving a cobra a second chance to strike. Jack said Diane was Kyle’s mother. Nikki was sure that Diane wouldn’t be able to keep up the innocent facade for long and then look out. At that moment, Diane came in, and Nikki went over and told her to leave, because this was a private event. Diane sipped champagne and claimed she had no idea, but Nikki was sure that Diane had seen the signs outside about the launch party. Jack came over and said he’d deal with this, and Nikki reluctantly left.

Diane thanked Jack for the rescue, but he said he did it for Lily and Devon. Diane said she thought she could use the spa tonight since Phyllis was out of town. Jack noted that there was a spa at the Athletic Club. Diane liked the masseuse at The Grand Phoenix. A skeptical Jack commented that Diane was dressed awfully nicely for a spa visit. She said she was going to dinner afterward, and she invited him along so they could talk about Kyle, but he declined. Billy came up. Diane said she accidentally crashed, so he didn’t have to threaten to kick her out. That wasn’t what he was going to say.

Abby told Lily that she wished Chance wasn’t called away on a case. Lily asked if Abby wished Chance joined the family business instead of being a cop. Abby supported Chance’s job. She thought he was born for the role.

Billy thought Diane deserved a second chance, so he wished he could ask her to stay. Diane understood that he couldn’t, because her presence could cause drama. Nikki came barreling back over to tell Diane to get out. She threatened to call security. Jill watched it all unfold from a distance. Billy told Nikki that wasn’t necessary. Diane headed to the spa. Nikki said that she felt bad for Kyle, but one way or another, Diane had to go. Jack went to talk to Jill. Billy told Nikki that that could’ve went worse. She broached the subject of Victoria leaving with Ashland. She wanted him to convince Victoria to stay. He said he tried. Lily came up and excused herself and Billy.

Diane ran into Victor on the way to the spa. He told her she was making a fool of herself, and he asked if she thought people forgot what she’d done. She said that she didn’t forget what had been done to her either, but forgiveness didn’t require forgetting, only compassion. She left. Victor couldn’t believe he used to be married to Diane. Victor flashed back to a confrontation they had years ago. She’d come to express her condolences over something. She said she wasn’t a bad person, and she didn’t believe in holding grudges. He said she was the last person he expected or wanted to see. However, he’d agreed that holding grudges wasn’t healthy.

Devon gave Nate a pep talk before his speech. After they parted ways, Abby commented on Nate going from doctor to COO. She said she thought being a doctor was his calling, like Chance was called to law enforcement. He said it used to be when he was a surgeon, but when he lost that, everything changed. He said he was nervous about his speech. She delivered a pep talk too. He appreciated it. He said that if Elena were here, he would’ve gone to her for one. He wanted some advice from her, as someone who used to work at Newman. He said the current plan was to make a speech that was light on the details. He thought they should go into specifics though. Abby thought that he should ask Devon and Lily. Nate said that Devon was stuck on the idea of doing a broad overview. Abby understood how Nate felt, but she thought he should follow Devon’s lead. She said Devon had been doing this for a long time, and he knew what worked.

Lily had taken Billy off to a secluded corner for a kiss. She said making time for him was important business. He was proud of her. She said it was a group effort, but he told her this was her vision, and she made it happen. He was one hundred percent convinced there was nothing she couldn’t accomplish. Devon cleared his throat. He’d found Lily to tell her that the publicist wanted to go over the speeches. Lily asked Billy if he wanted to say a few words. He said she was the one from Chancellor that people wanted to hear from.

Billy ran into Giancarlo and complimented him on what he’d been doing with the marketing department. Giancarlo said Billy’s podcast division had been kicking butt, and the numbers for the Grinning Soul were especially good. Billy pretended he didn’t know who the host of that podcast was.

Imani saw Nate frowning and said that could only mean he needed more Imani. He asked what the deal was with her and her date. She said she hadn’t decided if Giancarlo was worthy of her yet. Imani had been thinking about her talk with Nate earlier, when he said he thought they were missing out on an opportunity if they didn’t share specific plans in their speech. She thought that he should go with his gut. He pointed out that Lily and Devon disagreed. She said tonight was never supposed to be a big tease. She thought this was their only shot to dazzle the crowd. He decided she was right.

Chance was with another cop at Crimson Lights. They were waiting on a search warrant. The other cop said it was a damned shame Rosales wasn’t here. He thought Rey would be proud of Chance. Chance said he asked the captain to put the cop on this case, because Rey and Chance trusted this guy. They got the warrant and headed out.

Billy: Lily. Can we talk?

Lily: Billy, can we please talk later?

Billy: No, bemuse you said some pretty harsh things to me last night, and you’ve been avoiding the conversation ever since.

:Lily I’m not avoiding it. I have a lot going on right now. I don’t have time to talk about Victoria.

Billy: Oh, I understand that. You made that clear last night. But I think it’s only fair that I’m able to explain myself.

Lily: Okay Billy, there’s a very simple solution for this. Just let Victoria and Ashland go. Respect Victoria’s autonomy as a woman and a mother.

Billy: I do.

Lily: No, stop thinking that she’s gonna put your kids’ lives in danger. There’s no need to change the custody agreement. That’s just your excuse to interfere.

Billy: No, that is not what this is about.

Lily: And, honestly, stop trying to think that you can fix Victoria’s life. This is why she wants to leave town and cut ties with her family — because everyone is trying to micromanage her choices, which is exactly what you’re trying to do

********************

Billy: Look, I don’t believe that I am the same person now as I was when I was with her, but because of that experience, I can see how this whole thing is going to unravel, and I am simply trying to stop her from getting her heart crushed her whole life derailed because once again she puts too much trust in someone.

Lily: Okay, if she’s making a mistake, it’s her mistake to make. Look, I know that it’s hard for you to sit back and just watch this, but it’s not on you to fix it. And I hate that on a day when we should be focusing on the event, we’re talking about Victoria.

Billy: Well, the way you say that, it almost makes it sound like you think I might have feelings for her still.

Lily: No, I don’t think that you have feelings for her. I just think that you are way too involved in her life. It goes beyond co-parenting.

Billy: Yeah. It’s a little bit difficult. I mean, we have a big history, you know? I can’t just cut ties like that.

Lily: Oh, you know, I have exes, too, okay? But they don’t cause issues in our relationship.

Billy: Yeah, but they don’t live in Genoa City.

Lily: Well, you know what? Victoria might leave Genoa City. So, is that why you have a problem with this?

Billy: No. This is about her not being able to let go of that monster of a person, okay? That’s what all of this is about.

Lily: Okay. I don’t know how to make this any clearer to you. I am done talking about this. You have to let this go.
