Esther: Oh, the man who messaged me on the dating app lives here in Genoa City.

Chloe: What does he do?

Esther: Mm, he’s in marketing.

Chloe: Hmm, that’s vague. What’s his name?

Esther: Dwight. Oh, he looks quite handsome in his profile photo.

Chloe: Of course he does. Let me see. Okay, the guy in this photo is quite the looker, if that’s really him.

Esther: What do you mean?

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Chloe: Ooh, what now?

Esther: Oh, he wants to meet and he’s free right now.

Chloe: Oh, convenient.

Esther: He says he’s intrigued by my profile and he thinks we would have a lot to talk about. And he’d rather do it in person than on the app. Oh, my goodness.

Chloe: What are you doing?

Esther: My lipstick. Oh, my favorite — crimson glow by jabot. Uh.

Chloe: Okay, mom, mom, mom. Stop. You wanted my advice, I am giving it. You cannot meet this guy. He is a walking red flag.

Michael: How’s lunch?

Ashland: Well, actually, i was here for breakfast, and i somehow left my credit card here, so I dropped by to pick it up.

Michael: Oh. If only I had known, I would’ve gotten here earlier and claimed it for myself.

Ashland: Mm.

Michael: That would’ve been quite a shopping spree. Oh, the things I would’ve bought.

Ashland: If you’re hurting for money, I would suggest you talk to your employer.

Michael: Oh, I’m not short of cash. I just think it’s fun to imagine what I could purchase if I were a billionaire like Ashland Locke. I mean, could I go to South America and buy testimony from doctors? Or entire towns’ police departments?

Ashland: Are you accusing me of these things?

Michael: Maybe. Or maybe I just have a rich fantasy life. You know, I had a lot of time to imagine scenarios when I was stuck in a Peruvian jail for weeks.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] Yes, this is Ashland Locke. I’ll be coming downstairs to check out. I just wanted to make sure someone would, you know, actually be there. The service in this hotel has been spotty at best. What? No, I have not enjoyed my time here in Geno City.

*********************

Ashland: Okay. Um… I don’t expect you to believe a word that comes out of my mouth. But I need you to hear this. Victoria, you changed me. You have made me an infinitely better man.

[ Sighs ] And even though I’ve lost you, I will be forever grateful for our happier times together. Besides Harrison, you have been the only bright spot in my entire life. My company has brought me money and power and success, but… it hasn’t brought me the happiness that I’ve experienced with you. And our love was real. I think we both know that.

Victoria: Why would I believe you?

Ashland: The trust is you shouldn’t. I lied to you. I betrayed your trust. And I will continue to try to make amends. I will. I’ll try to help people and i will make more contributions to charities like your brother’s. I know it’s not a lot, but…

[ Breathes shakily ] The truth is I would do anything for you. I would give up everything for you. I would walk through fire for you.

Victoria: You already have.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ] Yes, that’s true, I have.

[ Chuckles ] I pulled out of a burning car. I saved your life so that you could be set free…and be happy and fulfilled without me. Your family was right to push me away from you. I hate to say it, but… Victoria…you are better off without me.

Recap written by Christine

Nikki and Nick hugged. They’d run into each other at Crimson Lights after she got back from her trip. He asked about Victoria. She was sorry to report that his sister still felt as conflicted as ever. He wondered what they could do to convince Victoria that Ashland was toxic. They got a table and lamented that Victoria was shutting them out when she needed them most. Nikki said Victoria was grown, and she’d been through some incredibly tough times. Nikki said Victoria could’ve shut down after JT, but she’d pulled herself together. Nick added that Billy came along, and then that fell apart. Nikki said Victoria opened her heart again, and Ashland entered. Nikki said Victoria liked to portray a tough persona, but she was lead by her emotions just like the rest of them. Nick stated that hatred was an emotion, and Victoria should hold onto it when it came to Ashland. Nikki understood that, but she pointed out that Nick had forgiven Phyllis and Sharon, and Nikki did the same with Victor. “Letting go of love is one of the most difficult things anyone can do,” she said. Nick asked what they were supposed to do – just hope Ashland didn’t hurt Victoria anymore? Nikki wasn’t sure what else they could do. She was concerned because she hadn’t heard from Victoria.

At Newman Media, Victor told Adam that the restraining order didn’t do the trick – Ashland was still in town. Adam asked which way Victoria’s heart was leaning. Victor didn’t think that was important right now. He said they needed to focus on getting rid of Ashland. Victor maintained that there was no reason for Locke to be here. Adam said Ashland had a reason – his love for Victoria.

Victoria woke up in Ashland’s bed at the hotel. He was already awake and dressed, and he had coffee for her. He asked her not to open her eyes – he’d been trying to figure out a way to prolong this night as long as possible, because he was worried that she’d change her mind about taking him back. She assured him that she still felt the same way. She appreciated him for agreeing to taking things slowly. He told her to take all the time she needed. She said she still loved him, but her family, especially her father, thought she was incapable of making up her own mind. She felt that her family would continue to judge her and try to control her unless she let them know in no uncertain terms that it ended now. “I choose you,” Victoria told Ashland. Victoria thought that if she told her family her decision, they’d try and drive her and Ashland apart. He said they wouldn’t let that happen. She was sick and tired of her family trying to control her. She felt suffocated. Nikki called, and Victoria declined it. She was sure Nikki was wondering if she was doing anything impetuous, or human or enjoyable. She wished he’d seen her family trying to convince her to stay at the ranch last night. He was sure they were worried she’d find her way back to him. She thought it was childish and ridiculous. She thought that it was inexcusable that her father used his power and influence to keep Ashland from his son.

When Victor called, Victoria declined his call too. She was sure he was just calling to make sure she was dutifully accepting what he’d done for her own good and for the good of the family. She didn’t want to hear it. “It’s all been lies,” she contended. She wanted to start over, away from Newman and away from all the people. She took his hands and they smiled. Victoria knew Ashland fell deeply in love with her and that it wasn’t part of his original plan. She knew he never expected it, just like she never expected to forgive him for lying to her. “The love that I have for you is undeniable and it is so strong,” Victoria said. She knew his quirks, flaws and even a few of his triggers. She loved all of him. He said acceptance of one thing, but wanting to run away with him was another.

Victoria wanted to run away with Ashland, away from the constraints and burden of her family. She knew he probably questioned her sincerity, since she lied to him about this before, to get him to take the payoff. She said she meant it this time. He said he wouldn’t make any grand sweeping promises – he’d let his actions and love speak for itself, but he wanted her to consider all the consequences. She conceded it wouldn’t be easy to leave the company she loved, but she thought it was worth it. He clarified that he was talking about her children – Billy wouldn’t be happy. She knew that Billy would never keep her away from the kids. He countered that Victor orchestrated a restraining order against him, and Kyle went along with it. He asked if she was sure Billy would be okay with Ashland spending time with his kids. She stroked his hair and told him not to worry about Billy. He asked what about her parents and Nick. She’d decided not to try and convince them of her choices anymore – either they’d accept it or they wouldn’t. He thought that was wise. She grinned and said of course it was wise – she was the smartest woman he knew. Ashland suggested that Victoria didn’t bring him up when she declared her independence from her family. He said that his name might trigger a reaction from her family that she was unprepared for.

Back at Newman Media, Victor agreed when Adam said there was nothing they could do to stop Ashland’s drive to be with Victoria. Adam had a strong suspicion that Victoria wanted Ashland to stay. Victor thought Adam was only saying this because he wanted Victoria’s job. Adam contended that Victor was refusing to see what was in front of his face – that Victoria loved Ashland. He thought Victor needed to prepare for Victoria to go back to Ashland. Victor maintained that Victoria was too smart and strong for that. Victor got a text from Victoria saying she wanted to meet, and she said to bring Adam. At Crimson Lights, Nikki and Nick got the text too, and Nikki was worried.

Victoria met everyone that she’d summoned to her office. She thanked them for coming. She said she knew they all had busy lives running around behind her back pulling strings to orchestrate things she’d never approve of. She said if she’d paid closer attention, she could’ve predicted Victor’s next move, since they thought a lot alike. “Not lately unfortunately,” Victor replied. Victoria was sure Michael was probably just salivating over Victor’s plan. She said Victor, who always preached about the importance of family, cut Ashland off from his son. She felt that Victor had gone too far.

Before Victoria left for vacation, she’d asked Victor to leave Ashland alone. She said Ashland had moved on and was focused on protecting his relationship with his son. Nick disagreed. He said they paid Ashland a fortune to leave, but he’d stuck around, planning God knows what. Victoria asked if Nick was okay with Ashland having his son ripped from him. Nick said Ashland practically begged Summer and Kyle to take Harrison to Milan so he wouldn’t see Ashland in the end stages of his non-existent cancer. Victoria said that Ashland loved that little boy. She contended that Victor didn’t just orchestrate the restraining order to remove Ashland’s reason for staying; he did it to hurt Ashland in the harshest and most painful way possible. An unapologetic Victor maintained that Ashland reaped what he’d sown and that the little boy was better off. Adam asked why Victoria even cared. Nikki echoed that Harrison should be protected. Victoria thought what they really meant was that she should needed protecting. Nick asked why Victoria was passionately defending Ashland like he was a victim. Victoria was tired of her family trying to control and manipulate her. She said she was leaving town to start over. Adam’s expression was one of barely-concealed delight, but everyone else looked upset.

Victor thought Victoria needed to come to her senses. “You’re not going anywhere!,” he snapped. Victoria guessed it was difficult for Victor to believe she wasn’t going to fall in line. She said she was going to live her life as she saw fit. Nikki wanted to take a step back and talk, but Victoria thought they just wanted her to follow directions. Well, she was sick and tired of playing by their rules, so they should find another puppet. Nick thought this was crazy. Victoria thought Nick, of all people, should understand her choosing freedom. Nick said she was choosing a man who used her and lied and tried to bleed the company dry. Nikki asked if Victoria was talking about leaving with Ashland. Victor asked if Ashland was coercing Victoria. Victoria stood up, using her cane for balance. Victoria said that they didn’t hear her, and even if they did hear her, they wouldn’t understand. For the first time ever, she didn’t care if they understood. “For the first time in my life, I am proclaiming my independence. I am reclaiming my life. That’s why I’m leaving,” Victoria said.

Jack, Summer and Kyle were in the Abbott living room. Kyle mentioned he saw Allie heading out for a run earlier. They all felt that Allie was settling into the household. Summer mentioned that Phyllis got on a plane to Savannah to visit Daniel. Jack hoped everything was okay. Summer had enlisted her brother Daniel’s help getting Phyllis out of town for awhile. Summer thought that Phyllis needed a diversion and that Kyle and Diane didn’t need Phyllis declaring war while they were in the fragile position of rebuilding their relationship. Kyle and Jack both appreciated Summer doing this. Diane showed up wanting to take everyone to breakfast, but Kyle said his son was down for his morning nap. Kyle ribbed Jack about getting Harrison all wound up last night. Diane said, as a fellow doting grandparent, she stood in solidarity with Jack. Jack took a rain check on breakfast because he had work. Kyle said he and Summer would go. Diane and Kyle headed out, while Summer claimed she was going to go tell the nanny they were leaving.

Summer actually wanted to check in on Jack. She saw the tension between him and her mom, and she knew there had been a fight. Though Summer didn’t know the details, Phyllis had ranted about Diane, so Summer had an idea what it was about. Summer thought Phyllis put Jack in an incredibly difficult decision. Jack said he was fine, and everything would work out the way it was supposed to. She left.

Allie came back after her run, and she talked with Jack about it. He used to run too before his knees couldn’t take it anymore. Allie shared that she used to run with her dad, until he had to give it up for the same reason. Jack was sorry his genetics messed up Allie and Keemo’s activity, though he was sure they must’ve found another way to spend time together. He advised Allie to do stretches to avoid that fate for her own knees. Allie said she had to find a backup exercise that was easier on the joints. He told her about a new Pilates place that was opening soon. She said she’d do it if someone from the family joined her. She wanted to get to know the family better. She mentioned that Ashley was going to show her around the Jabot lab this afternoon. Jack remembered the first time he took Keemo there. Allie wanted to hear more. Jack said Keemo had a very curious mind, he was especially interested in the Jabot fragrances, and it was clear early on that he had a natural ability in chemistry. Jack encouraged Ashley to hire Keemo as an assistant, and before long, Keemo quit his job at the family restaurant to work at the lab full time. Jack said Keemo had an infectious joy and enthusiasm about work. Jack was sure that Keemo would’ve said “That it wasn’t work at all,” Allie finished.

Allie told Jack about The Grinning Soul podcast. He’d never heard of it. She said there was a great episode about whether you should follow your bliss or have a game plan for your life. She wondered which end of the spectrum he fell on. He thought people should find happiness and fun after they developed a really good game plan. Allie agreed with Jack. She mentioned that Noah leaned in the opposite direction. Jack guessed Allie and Noah had a vibrant conversation about it. Allie had to go to the coffeehouse now, because that was where she was meeting Ashley. Jack insinuated that Allie was hoping to run into Noah, and she got flustered.

At Society, Diane learned that Phyllis was in Savannah. Summer said Phyllis was visiting Daniel and his family. Diane recalled that Phyllis had a granddaughter, Lucy. Summer said she didn’t know anyone who spoiled kids better than her mom. Diane was ready to go all out to spoil Harrison, since she had a lot of time to make up for. Kyle said Diane might soon have more time to spoil her grandson than they thought. Jabot might purchase Marchetti, and they’d move operations to Genoa City. Diane thought that was wonderful. Kyle said it was all Summer’s brilliant idea. Summer thought that Kyle put together an exciting presentation for the board. Diane was proud of Kyle, and she she was so happy that she might get to be part of his life. She said he was so young, and he’d accomplished so much.

Diane wanted to hear all about Marchetti. Summer rehashed the story about how she came up with the idea for Jabot to buy floundering company. Diane was happy to help ease the transition back to Genoa City for them. She wished she could go back and be there for Kyle’s sports and to pick him up from school. She knew that couldn’t happen, but she vowed to be there for him now. Ashland showed up. He just wanted to say he knew Kyle wasn’t the one behind the restraining order keeping him from Harrison.

Kyle had nothing to say to Ashland. Ashland wasn’t surprised Victor would do this, but he was appalled that Kyle would risk hurting Harrison to help Victor exact revenge. Kyle leapt from his seat and said it was appalling that a father would tell his son he had a terminal illness, then push that child overseas so he didn’t witness the so-called demise. Ashland was leaving town and he wanted to say goodbye to Harrison. Kyle said no. Ashland felt Kyle wanted to punish him more than he wanted to do what was best for Harrison. Kyle vowed to always put his son’s well being first. He said that he got the restraining order because Ashland was poison, not because of Victor’s animosity. Summer got up and told Kyle that they should go. He agreed, and they left.

Diane felt sorry for Ashland. She was sure plenty of people would want to file a restraining order against her to keep her away from Kyle. She felt lucky that Kyle was independent and strong and didn’t allow other people to tell him how to act or feel. Ashland said there was a power in taking that stance, and it could come as a shock to people who were used to getting their way. He was frustrating because he had no recourse. She said he didn’t seem like the type of man who was used to hearing no. he said he wasn’t used to being helpless, so it was ironic since he’d put himself in this position by pretending to be helpless against a disease. She said he did a terrible thing to the people he called family. She knew that he told a lie people claimed was unforgivable, but she noted that Victor had done the same thing multiple times over the years. She thought Victor was unfair. Ashland used to feel contempt for people who complained that things were unfair, since no one ever said life was fair. Now he understood that feeling after being cut out of Harrison’s life. Diane wished she could help, but she couldn’t risk her relationship with Kyle. Ashland understood. He couldn’t ask her to jeopardize her own situation. She hoped they could still be friends. He said that would’ve been nice, but he was leaving town soon. She thought that was a shame, since they barely got a chance to know each other. He thought they knew each other, since they confided in each other. He also felt they were kindred spirits. She said she’d buy him a drink if he ever returned and she was still here. She was getting a fresh start, and she hoped he’d get the same chance. That was why he was leaving town. He thought it was the best decision he ever made.

Summer, Jack and Kyle were back at the house after a successful presentation to the board. Summer and Kyle had done the pitch together, like they used to, and he said they still had their same rhythm. Jack said that once Summer and Kyle left the board room, the board of directors ran out of superlatives. That was why the board voted yes. Angelina Marchetti was fully on board with the sale, once Summer had shown her the books and the state of the company. Summer was excited to work together with Kyle as a team with their friends and their family. Jack wanted them to remember this transition would mean a lot of late nights and long days. Kyle said they wouldn’t have it any other way. Summer said if she could get Diane and Phyllis to peacefully exist, things would be perfect.

Jack didn’t think that would ever happen. Summer wished someone would tell her exactly what happened in this fight involving Phyllis. Jack didn’t think the details were important. He said they should focus on their many blessings right now. He was thrilled they were relocating and that Jabot was expanding.

Victoria: Dad.

Victor: What?

Victoria: What have you done now?

Victor: What do you mean what have I done now? I just told you that our troubles with ashland will be over soon, you know. Why do you assume I did something?

Victoria: Because I know you.

Victor: Oh.

Victoria: So tell me, why did ashland pay you a visit?

Victor: The guy’s desperate. He’s all over the place. So he came by and then, you know, wanted to talk about things. That’s it.

Victoria: Well, I can’t imagine that he would seek you out unless he were provoked.

Nikki: Now, darling, you were just saying that you don’t want to talk about ashland anymore, so why don’t you put him right out of your mind?

Victor: I think that’s a wonderful idea. And I want to hear about your trip. I want to hear all about switzerland.

Nikki: Oh, it was fantastic.

Victor: Really?

Nikki: It’s so green this time of yeah. I know people think of the alps as being cold and snowy.

Victor: Yeah.

Nikki: But it was — it was just lush and vibrant. And the hotel — oh, my god, they took such great care of us.

Victor: Oh, yeah? Well, they better.

Nikki: This trip was exactly what we needed.

Victor: Good. Glad to hear that.

Nikki: Victoria. Is anything wrong?

[ Doorbell rings ]

Phyllis: Hello. Are — are you going to invite me in? I was hoping we could get past this.

Jack: This really isn’t a good time.

Phyllis: Okay, well, I think we should talk. I mean, we’ve come so far. And — and I think it would be foolish to let a stupid thing like this cause everything to fall apart. Hi, my name’s steve.

Victoria: Everything is fine. That was mark from accounting.

Nikki: This late?

Victoria: Yes, well, something’s come up with the third-quarter projections.

Nikki: Oh. Is it anything I can help with?

Victoria: No, not at all. I can handle it.

Victor: Sweetheart, why don’t you deal with it tomorrow? You had a long flight. You need some rest.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] You know, I am a bit tired.

Victor: Well, then I suggest you come home to the ranch with us. Stay the night.

Nikki: Well, that’s a fun idea.

Victor: Yeah.

Nikki: It would be like an extension of our vacation, and then you don’t have to go back to that empty house.

Victoria: Please, I think i can spend one night in my own home alone. But thank you. I appreciate the offer.

Victor: Well, will you at least come with us to society and have some dinner?

Victoria: Daddy, you’re the one that just told me that i need to rest, so I think I’m gonna do what you told me to do and go home. And I will talk to you both tomorrow.

Victor: Alright.

Nikki: Okay.

Victoria: Have a good night.

Victor: Night.

Nikki: You too.

[ Door closes ] Did you believe any of that?

Victor: Not a damn word.

Jack: You’re right. We should talk.

Phyllis: Okay. Well, we don’t have to stay here.

Jack: No, no, this is fine. No one’s here, and this shouldn’t take too long.

Phyllis: Okay. Okay, well, then I just want to start by saying something that doesn’t come easily to me. Uh…uh…um…I want to apologize to you. I’m sorry.

Jack: What exactly are you apologizing for?

Phyllis: I’ll tell you exactly what I’m apologizing for, okay? Um…not just what I said and did, but the aftermath with diane. All of that. I’m sorry. And, um…it — it… I want to take full responsibility.

Jack: Okay, that’s a step in the right direction.

Phyllis: Yeah, just it’s — it’s very difficult because…

[Sighs] Diane has a — has a permanent space in my head it seems. And I know it’s wrong and it’s just very difficult for me when she came back.

[ Sighs ] I felt threatened by diane.

Jack: That’s absurd.

Phyllis: That’s absurd, i know. It’s absurd and silly, but, um…

[ Sighs ] That hatred goes back a long way. The way I detest her is in my dna.

Jack: You let your issues with diane affect us.

Phyllis: Yes, I did, I did. I know, and that was wrong. It was wrong. And I want to apologize for that. It was immature and wrong. So I am sorry. I rea– I am sorry. And — and — and I realize i pushed you into something that you weren’t ready for, and I’m sorry for that.

[ Sighs ] You know, and when I saw diane, I-I-I just thought, “oh, god, she’s gonna go after jack, and — and I have to get jack before she gets her hooks into him,” and so I apologize. Listen, I-I have, uh…

[ Sighs ] …Done so well, and, um… and I’ve matured and I’m enlightened, and I just feel that — that everything that happened with diane, that just all my progress just went away.

Jack: Yes. And it happened so quickly, so easily. That’s what I can’t get past.

[ Sighs ]

Ashland: [ Sighs ] Yes, this is ashland locke. I’ll be coming downstairs to check out. I just wanted to make sure someone would, you know, actually be there. The service in this hotel has been spotty at best. What? No, I have not enjoyed my time here in genoa city. If you’ve been living with heart disease,

Phyllis: Hey, listen, um… don’t go to extremes like that. I admitted to you that my behavior is reprehensible. I said that. Okay? I apologized for it. But… come on, you can get past this.

Jack: Because I’ve gotten past it so many times in the past? That’s not exactly a selling point. It isn’t just that you went back to your old ways, it was the ease and fluidity with which you transformed from new phyllis into old phyllis in the blink of an eye.

Phyllis: Yes, I realize that I did that. I know. I have a pattern. I get it.

[ Sighs ] I apologized. I can change, I know that. I can change. So I will be a better person for you. And all — all of my lousy habits and lousy behavior, that’s in the past.

Jack: I don’t want you to change. You can show remorse. You’ve done that before. You can plead for another redo. How many times have we done that in the past? I can’t do this. I made it clear months ago, when there was a hint that we might be traveling down a romantic road, that I would almost rather die than be hurt. I meant that.

Phyllis: I mean, it was just one mistake.

Jack: No, it was so much more than that. We have been working for months, carefully, thoughtfully, lovingly, to rebuild trust. Trust in each other, trust in ourselves as a couple. You threw that out to get an edge on diane. You say you want to cha– you can’t change. And I can’t do this. I’m done.

Phyllis: After — after all of this, this is the end, really?

Jack: Yeah, this is the end. Goodbye.

Kyle: And then harrison said, “but that’s not a frog.”

Victor: Thank you. Did she say anything about locke while you were in switzerland?

Nikki: She didn’t talk about him at all. She kept to herself a lot.

Victor: You didn’t press her because you didn’t want to push her away, right?

Nikki: Exactly. When I asked her about him this morning, she shut down the conversation.

Victor: That’s not a good sign.

Nikki: She did tell me before we left on our trip that she still had feelings for him. And I don’t think that’s changed. If anything, I think she’s more conflicted.

Victor: How is it possible that that bastard, that fraud, has a hold on her still?

Ashland: I thought you were still in europe.

Victoria: Well, I — I just returned. I guess not even the best massage in switzerland could get me to relax or give me any peace in my mind. So it’s true.

Ashland: You thought I was bluffing about leaving?

[ Chuckles ] I’m not. I am getting the hell out of this god-forsaken town and never looking back. I’m sure you’re relieved.

Victoria: So you were planning on leaving town without saying goodbye face-to-face. That doesn’t really sound like you.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] Well, as I said, I thought you were out of the country, and no one seemed to know when you’d be back.

Victoria: But why the rush to leave now?

Ashland: I’m sure you’ve noticed — no one wants me here.

Victoria: Never bothered you before. Why now? What happened?

Ashland: I just can’t fight anymore. I’ve lost. The newmans win. With depression, you just feel…blah.

Nikki: So what happened when you saw ashland? I trust your plan is still in motion.

Victor: It is. I convinced kyle and summer to file a restraining order against that bastard. That way, he can no longer be near harrison, you know? Perhaps then he’ll realize there’s nothing else for him to do. He’ll leave town.

Nikki: Hopefully that will work. But I hate using that little boy as a pawn.

Victor: I’m not using him as a pawn at all. Just making sure that ashland locke stays away from him.

Nikki: Yeah, no kidding. Victoria’s not the only one who needs to be protected from ashland. I’m sure he had some choice words for you.

Victor: [ Sighs ] Just bluster now that he’s been exposed as a fraud. The thing that worries me, though, is that victoria may still have feelings for that bastard. That means we have to stop them from crossing paths.

Victoria: What exactly does that mean, “the newmans win”?

Ashland: Well, I don’t think it’s any secret that your family despises me. They want me to disappear from this town and your life.

Victoria: My family has been very out in the open about their hatred for you for quite a while. So what has happened this last week that’s driving you away? ‘Cause the least I heard, you were sticking around as long as harrison was here because you wanted to be close to him.

Ashland: You really don’t know, do you?

Victoria: No, ashland, i don’t know. That’s why I’m asking you.

Ashland: I’m relieved. I didn’t want to believe that you would play any part in something like this. It’s your father, he’s the one behind it.

Victoria: Behind what?

Ashland: [ Sighs ] I’ve been doing my best to stand up to your father and michael baldwin’S…threats and legal bullying. But thanks to them, I can no longer see my son. I… your father convinced summer and kyle to file a restraining order against me. I’m not allowed to be anywhere near him.

Victoria: I can’t — I can’t imagine that they would use a child in that way. Are you sure my father was behind this?

Ashland: [ Sighs ] I’m pretty positive, yeah.

Victoria: 100% positive?

Ashland: Oh, come on, victoria. This kind of maneuver, this has your father’s name written all over it. I have done nothing illegal in regards to my son. Certainly nothing that warrants a restraining order. And yet, a judge signed off on it immediately, with michael baldwin as the attorney. I have no doubt that your father orchestrated this as a final move to get me to leave town, and it worked. He did the impossible. He got me to walk away…from you.

Jack: Hello, everyone. I have a phone call I need to make, if you’ll please excuse me.

Phyllis: Well, you all sounded like you were having so much fun.

Kyle: Did he really go make a call?

Phyllis: I believe so.

Kyle: His phone’s right there.

Summer: Are you alright?

Phyllis: Yeah, I’m doing great. Uh, jack and I were going to go out for, you know, drinks and some dancing, but he had other obligations.

Diane: Is he okay? He looked upset.

Phyllis: He’s fine. Well, I have to go back to the hotel. See you later. If you have advanced non-small cell lung cancer,

“The young and the restless”

will continue. Do you struggle with occasional nerve aches

Kyle: I’m going to go check in on my dad. He’s probably looking for this.

Diane: It’s nice the way he takes care of jack like that.

Summer: That’s kyle. But I wonder what happened here?

Diane: What do you mean?

Summer: It seems like there was more going on than a business call. Why did jack run off like that and then my mom moments after?

Diane: How should I know? Neither one of them confides in me.

Kyle: I couldn’t get much out of my dad, other than that he wanted to be alone.

Summer: [ Sighs ] Okay, since no one here’s sure what’s going on, I’m gonna go check on my mom.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Ashland: I assume you’re here because you want to be reassured that my text was legitimate. It was.

Victoria: I gathered that when I saw the suitcase.

Ashland: I’m grateful you’re here. I didn’t think I was gonna get a chance to say goodbye to you in person.

Victoria: Here I am.

Victoria: [ Sniffles ]

Ashland: Don’t worry, I’ll be gone soon, and…you won’t have to cry over me ever again.

Victoria: I’m not crying… I’m not crying because I want you to leave. I’m crying because I — I want you to stay. (Asaad) when I was little,

Nikki: Oh, god. I hate to see the two of them together.

Victor: What?

Nikki: [ Sighs ] Can we please just ignore her tonight? I am not in the mood. I might have to slap her again.

Victor: You slapped her? Why didn’t you tell me?

Nikki: Oh, do you disapprove?

Victor: No, I wish I’d been there.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] I’ll tell you the whole sordid story in the car.

Victor: Alright. Mm. Hello, kyle.

Kyle: Victor.

Nikki: Hi, kyle. How are you?

Kyle: Nikki.

Diane: [ Sighs ] It’s okay. I’m used to it.

Kyle: Well, I didn’t expect them to be overjoyed seeing us together, but they could at least acknowledge you.

Diane: Oh, the last time i saw nikki, she acknowledged me right across the face.

Kyle: What?

Diane: Yeah, she slapped me. But I know there is no one within 100-mile radius who would say I didn’t deserve it.

Kyle: Are you kidding me?

Diane: She holds a grudge, with good reason. I have given up trying to change certain people’s minds about me. Phyllis, at the top of the list. That woman will try to find a way to blame me for anything.

Kyle: I’m sorry. I know staying in town must be hard. And there will probably be more battles on the horizon.

Diane: Do you not want me to stay?

Summer: You’re just pretending to work, aren’t you?

Phyllis: I’m going over invoices.

Summer: Couldn’t have waited until tomorrow?

Phyllis: I run a business, summer.

Summer: Mom, I know that something is going on between you and jack. You can tell me about it or not, but just know that I’m here if you want to talk.

Phyllis: Okay. That woman is pure, unadulterated evil.

Summer: Diane?

Phyllis: Diane. Yes, diane. That woman is poison. She kills everything she touches. You need to convince your husband that she will shatter his heart in a million different pieces. She needs to get out of here.

Summer: I can’t do that without knowing more facts.

Phyllis: No, you don’t need to know facts. I am your mother, and I am telling you. She needs to pack her bags and she needs to go back to la.

Summer: Then tell me what she’s done.

Phyllis: That woman will ruin lives forever. Do you understand?

Summer: [ Sighs ] Mom. Mom! Wh–

Traci: Good evening, jack.

Jack: Hey.

Traci: What’s wrong?

Jack: Well, just because I’m not whistling a happy tune when you walk in, you think something’s wrong? I’m sorry. No judgment?

Traci: From me? Never. You know that.

Jack: Yeah, I do know that.

Traci: Jack, I’m here. Talk to me.

Jack: It’s phyllis.

Traci: I assumed that much.

Jack: I thought I was being so careful. And we were on the verge of something wonderful. We’d been doing this long, slow, romantic dance for months now. It was all there — the attraction, the connection, the history, good and bad, guiding us. There was anticipation and thrill every time we got together, and…and it shaped my days. And just when it was almost perfect…she broke it. She ruined it all.

Traci: Oh, no, no, no, I’m sorry. I am so, so, truly sorry.

Jack: No, you know, it’s not like I haven’t been here before. I shouldn’t hold out hope that phyllis is gonna finally focus on us — just us. No, there’s — there’s this pull to wreak havoc, to embrace vengeance, to welcome chaos. It’s more important than we are. It’s just part of who she is. And how many times have i learned that?

Traci: So you’re saying it’s over? It’s really over?

Jack: Oh, yeah, it’s over before it even began. I knew I was taking a chance, but I-I… I’d given in to it. And now the part of me that feared the worst turns out to have been right. I cannot believe I am here again. Yeah, yeah, it’S… it’s over…for good.

Jack: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

Ashland: I wanted to believe that you still had these feelings for me, but I had given up hope. I didn’t think you could get past my lies.

Victoria: I don’t want to have these feelings for you. That’s why I went to europe. I wanted to push them aside. I didn’t want to act on this — this pull that I feel to you. And I — I can’t make any sense of these feelings whatsoever. I came here tonight to say goodbye to you once and for all. And you saying goodbye to me… something inside of me, i just — I can’t bear it.

Ashland: I know exactly what you’re feeling.

Victoria: I’ve had a lot of time to think about what you’ve done, good and bad, and I have taken stock of our entire relationship, and I couldn’t have misjudged that much. It can’t all be a lie.

Ashland: It wasn’T.

Victoria: The love that we had, our wedding vows, every intimate moment that we shared, every intimate touch… those had to be real.

Ashland: They were.

Victoria: I believe you. Against my better judgment, i do, I believe you, and, yes, you may have started this relationship with some ugly ulterior motive, but I think that our love has changed you. And as much as I have tried, i can’t erase this love that i have. It’s just too powerful.

[ Sighs ] And I am never, ever gonna run away from it again.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] Before treating your chronic migraine-

Kyle: It’s not that I don’t want you to stay, I just know it comes at a cost, and I wanted to recognize that.

Diane: Thank you, but I’m willing to do whatever it takes to be part of your life.

Kyle: We have a long way to go emotionally, but I feel like we’re on the right track.

Diane: I agree.

Kyle: As long as you don’t do something that makes me doubt your sincerity.

Diane: Kyle, that is not going to happen.

Summer: Hey.

Kyle: Hi.

Diane: Hi, summer.

Summer: Kyle, can I talk to you alone?

Diane: You know, it’s — it’s late, so I’m going to leave you to it. Uh, I’ll call you tomorrow? Good night.

Kyle: What went down with phyllis?

Summer: Um…I think that she’s headed for a breakdown or a blow-up or something. Because of diane.

Kyle: Really? Why?

Summer: I’m not sure. I don’t have any details. All I know is that my mom is a powder keg, your mom is the match, and we need to find a way to avoid an explosion.

Kyle: And you really think it’s that bad.

Summer: Yes. And please don’t defend diane to me again.

Kyle: No, I know phyllis’ hate for her runs deep and their mistrust and dislike for each other goes a long way back. It’s hard to let go of.

Summer: It is. But…I think I might have a way to diffuse my mom for a while.

Jack: You know what? I should be relieved. You know, with everything we’ve been through over the years, i knew the odds were against us. I… I guess I’m lucky that it never went any farther. I’ll tell you this — I will never be in that position again.

Traci: [ Scoffs ] Jack, come on. You don’t have to put on any kind of show for me. I know you, jack. You’re a romantic who loves with his whole heart. And I know how much it hurts when that love goes wrong. So tomorrow you can put your positive spin on everything, but for tonight, jack, it’s okay if you just want to feel bad. I’m here for you, whatever you need.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Phyllis: [ Gasps ] Daniel. Baby! How are you? Oh, I miss you. I miss you so much. Yeah, you should call your mother more often.

[ Sighs ]

Ashland: I want so much for this to be true…for us to have the reunion I’ve dreamed of.

Victoria: You know it’s not gonna be easy.

Ashland: No, it’s not.

[ Chuckles ] The whole town is against us. I’m not sure how it’s ever gonna work out.

[ Chuckles ]

Victoria: By doing things differently. I promise you, we’ll find a way.

Ashland: I’m sorry, i misunderstood.

Victoria: No, it’s okay. Just — just let me finish. By doing things differently, i mean I think we should take things slowly.

Ashland: Okay.

Victoria: I want to be sure that we’re doing things for the right reason this time.

Ashland: We love each other. I can’t think of a better reason.

Victoria: I just don’t want to make the same mistakes. I can’t do that again. I’m gonna need some time so that we can build the trust between us. I want to create a healthy relationship with you, one that’s stable. I think, truly, that’s the only way that we’re ever gonna be able to heal. Assuming, of course, that you’re willing to wait.

Ashland: I am. Take all the time you want. I want you to be confident in what we have. And you are definitely worth waiting for.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] I was hoping that you would say that. ‘Cause I don’t want to lose you ever again.

Recap written by Christine

Jack looked depressed as he paced around his living room. Phyllis showed up, and a stone-faced Jack told her that it wasn’t a good time. She talked her way inside, stating that they shouldn’t let something stupid ruin what they had. Phyllis apologized, even though she admitted saying sorry didn’t come easy to her. He asked her to be specific about what she was apologizing for. She was sorry for what she said and did and for the aftermath. She wanted to take full responsibility, but it was difficult because she couldn’t get Diane out of her head. She said she felt threatened by Diane. He thought that was absurd. She knew he was right, but her hatred for Diane was in her DNA. “You let your issues with Diane affect us,” he said. She admitted that she’d been immature and wrong. She also apologized for pushing him into something he wasn’t ready for. Phyllis explained that she’d felt like she needed to get Jack before Diane got her hooks into him.

Phyllis felt like all the progress she’d made went away after Diane returned. Jack agreed, and he couldn’t get over the fact that Phyllis backslid so quickly. Phyllis told Jack not to go to extremes. She felt that, since she’d owned up to what she’d done and apologized, he would be able to get past it. “Because I’ve gotten past it so many times in the past? That’s not exactly a selling point,” he grumbled. Jack said it wasn’t just that Phyllis reverted to her old ways, it was that she transformed from new Phyllis to old Phyllis in the blink of an eye. She reiterated that she apologized, and she promised to change for him. He snapped that he didn’t want her to change. He said he’d made it clear, months ago, when there was a hint that they might get back together, that he’d almost rather die than be hurt again. She contended that it was just one mistake, but he argued that it was so much more. He said they’d carefully, thoughtfully and lovingly been rebuilding their trust, and she threw it all away to get an edge on Diane. “You can’t change! And I can’t do this! I’m done,” he snapped.

Just after Jack broke things off with Phyllis, Diane, Summer and Kyle entered. The trio’s laughter was cut short as they walked in on the tense scene. Jack excused himself to make a phone call. Kyle pointed out to everyone that Jack’s phone was still on the coffee table. Diane stifled a smile. Summer asked if Phyllis was okay, and she claimed she was. Phyllis said she and Jack were supposed to go out for drinks and dancing, but he had other obligations. Diane noted that Jack looked upset before he left. Phyllis said he was fine. She left.

Kyle went to check on his dad. Summer asked Diane what was going on between Jack and Phyllis. Diane said she had no idea. Kyle returned with the news that Jack wanted to be alone. Summer went to go check on her mom. Kyle and Diane left too. Jack went back to the living room and ran into Traci, who asked what was wrong. He fired off a snippy comment, before apologizing to his sister. He asked if she wouldn’t judge him, and she pointed out that she never would. He admitted he knew she wouldn’t. She implored him to talk to her. He said it was Phyllis. He thought he was being so careful and that he and Phyllis were on the verge of something wonderful. They’d been doing this romantic dance for months now, he said. They had the attraction, the connection, the history, good and bad, to guide them. Just when things were almost perfect, Phyllis ruined it all. Traci was so sorry. Jack felt like he should’ve known Phyllis would never just focus on their relationship. He said she was pulled to wreak havoc and welcome chaos, and it was more important than their relationship. He said what he and Phyllis had was over before it even began. He couldn’t believe he was here again. He told Traci that he and Phyllis were through for good. Traci hugged Jack.

Jack said he knew the odds were against him and Phyllis. He guessed he should consider himself lucky that things didn’t get very far. He said he’d never put himself in this position again. Traci told Jack he didn’t have to put on a show for her. She knew he was a romantic who loved with his whole heart, and she knew how much it hurt when that love went wrong. She said tomorrow he could put a positive spin on things, but tonight, it was okay if he just wanted to feel bad. She was there for him. He took her hand.

Summer tracked Phyllis down at the hotel and offered a shoulder to lean on. Phyllis said Diane was poison. She told Summer to convince Kyle that Diane would shatter his heart in a million pieces and that she needed to leave town. Summer said she couldn’t do that without the facts. Phyllis thought Summer should just trust her mother on this. Summer asked what Diane did. Phyllis stated that Diane would ruin lives. Phyllis got up and walked away, even though Summer kept calling for her.

Phyllis grabbed a drink from the mini bar in her room. She was pleasantly surprised when her son, Daniel called. She told him he should call more often.

At Newman Enterprises, Victor had just told Victoria and Nikki that their troubles with Ashland would be over soon. Victoria asked her father what he’d done now. He acted as if he had no idea why she asked him that. She replied that she knew him well enough to know he did something. Victor mentioned that Ashland came to see him. Victoria couldn’t imagine Ashland would do that unless he’d been provoked. Nikki reminded Victoria that she’d said she didn’t want to talk about Ashland. Nikki began to gush about the trip to Switzerland, and while she was talking, Victoria got a text from Ashland that said he’d never stop loving her.

Victoria lied to her parents and told her that it was a work text. Victor suggested Victoria put that off until tomorrow and go home and rest. She admitted she was tired, and Victor invited her to spend the night at the ranch. She said she could handle a night alone in her own house. He invited her to Society, and she said she was going to take his advice and go rest. She left. Nikki and Victor didn’t believe a word Victoria just said.

Nikki and Victor went to Society. He asked if Victoria mentioned Locke in Switzerland. Nikki said Victoria didn’t mention him at all, but she’d been very quiet on vacation, and Nikki didn’t push her. Nikki mentioned that Victoria told her before the trip that she still had feelings for Ashland. Nikki didn’t think that changed – if anything, Victoria was more conflicted. Victor didn’t understand how Ashland still had a hold on Victoria.

Victor shared that he convinced Kyle and Summer to file a restraining order against Ashland on Harrison’s behalf. He hoped that would make Ashland realize there was nothing left for him here. Nikki hoped that worked, though she hated the idea of using Harrison as a pawn. Victor didn’t think they were using Harrison, but protecting him from Ashland. Victor was worried Victoria still had feelings for Ashland. He said they had to stop Victoria and Ashland from crossing paths. Nikki was dismayed to see Kyle and Diane come in together. She told Victor she wanted to leave before she had to slap Diane again. Victor didn’t realize Nikki slapped Diane. He wished he’d been there to see it. She promised to share the whole sordid story in the car. As the couple exited the restaurant, they said hello to Kyle only.

Kyle didn’t expect Nikki and Victor to be happy to see Diane, but he thought they could’ve at least acknowledged her. Diane said Nikki acknowledged her right across the face the last time they crossed paths. Kyle seemed appalled, but Diane said that Nikki held a grudge with good reason. Diane had given up trying to change certain people’s minds about her, Phyllis being at the top of the list. Kyle was sorry; he knew that must be hard, and he anticipated that Diane would be facing more battles. Diane asked if Kyle didn’t want her to stay. It wasn’t that he didn’t want her to stay – he just wanted to recognize that it came with a cost. She said she’d do whatever it took to be part of his life. He said they had a long way to go emotionally, but they were on the right track, as long as she didn’t do something that made him doubt her sincerity. She said that wouldn’t happen. Summer showed up wanting to talk to Kyle alone. Diane said she’d call Kyle tomorrow, and she left.

Summer said her mom was on the verge of a breakdown, apparently because of his mom. She didn’t know what happened, but her mom was a powder keg, his mom was the match. Summer thought she and Kyle needed to prevent an explosion. Kyle asked if Summer really thought it was that bad. Summer said yes, and she asked that he not defend Diane to her again. He knew that Diane and Phyllis’s distrust and dislike for each other went way back and it was hard to let go of. Summer thought she had a way to defuse her mom for awhile.

After Ashland sent his text, he began to pack his suitcase, then he called the lobby and checked out. “No, I have not enjoyed my time here in Genoa City,” he tersely replied to the person at the front desk. Victoria showed up and talked to Ashland in the hall. He thought she was still in Europe. She said the spa didn’t give her peace of mind. She saw his bags and commented that it was true about him leaving. He was sure she’d be relieved to hear he was getting out of this godforsaken town and never looking back.

Victoria invited herself into the suite and commented on Ashland’s intention to leave town without saying goodbye face to face. He reiterated that he thought she was in Europe. She asked why he was rushing to leave. He didn’t have the will to fight anymore. He said he lost, and the Newmans won. Victoria said the last she heard, Ashland was going to stay in town as long as Harrison was here. Ashland realized Victoria didn’t know what happened. He was relieved because he didn’t want to believe she’d have any part in this. She asked what happened. He pulled out the restraining order barring him from Harrison and said that her father convinced Summer and Kyle to file it. She was shocked, and she didn’t want to believe her father would use a child like that. Ashland said this had Victor’s name all over it. He said that he didn’t do anything illegal in regards to his son, and yet a judge signed off on the restraining order, with Michael Baldwin as the attorney. “I have no doubt that your father orchestrated this as a final move to get me to leave town. And it worked. He did the impossible. He got me to walk away from you,” Ashland said.

Ashland was grateful Victoria came, so he would get to say goodbye in person. He didn’t expect her to believe him, but he said she made him an infinitely better man. Even though he’d lost her, he’d be forever grateful for their happy times together. Besides Harrison, Victoria was the only bright spot in his life. His company didn’t bring him the joy that she did. He thought they both knew their love was real. She asked why she should believe him. He began to cry, and he admitted she shouldn’t believe him because he lied to her and betrayed her trust. He vowed to continue to try and make amends. He said he’d try and help people and he’d contribute to charities like her brother’s. He knew it wasn’t a lot. He said he’d give up everything for her. He added that he’d walk through fire for her, and she pointed out that he already had. He said yes, he pulled her out of a burning car so she could be set free, happy and fulfilled without him. He admitted her family was right to push him away from her. He hated to say it, but she was better without him. She cried, and he assured her that he’d be gone soon, so she wouldn’t have to cry over him again.

Victoria confessed that she was crying because she wanted Ashland to stay. Ashland said he’d wanted to believe Victoria still had these feelings for him, but he’d given up hope that she could get past his lies. She said she didn’t want to have feelings for him. She went to Europe to push the feelings aside. She didn’t want to act on the pull she felt to him. She came here tonight to say goodbye to him once and for all, but when he said goodbye to her, she realized she couldn’t bear it. She took stock of their entire relationship, and she felt that she couldn’t have misjudged him that much – it couldn’t have all been lies. He said it wasn’t. She brought up their love, their wedding vows, every intimate touch – it had to be real. He said it was real. Against her judgment, she believed him. She also really thought their love changed him. She tried, but she couldn’t erase the love they had. It was too powerful, and she said she’d never run away from it again.

Ashland wanted this reunion. Victoria said it wouldn’t be easy, since the whole town was against them, but they’d find a way. He tried to kiss her, and she recoiled. He apologized and said he misunderstood. She said she wanted to take this slow and be sure they were doing things for the right reason this time. He said they loved each other, and he couldn’t think of a better reason. She said she needed time so they could rebuild their trust. She wanted a healthy stable relationship with him, because that was the way to heal. She asked if he was willing to wait. He told her she was worth waiting for. She was glad he said that because she didn’t want to lose him ever again.

Noah: Well, I’m glad you stuck around. We never got a chance to talk about that episode of “the grinning soul.” Did you listen to it yet?

Allie: Of course, I did.

Traci: Oh, I’m a big fan. I — what was the most recent episode about?

Allie: Ambition and how to chart your own course for a successful career.

Noah: No. No, that’s not what it was about at all.

Allie: Wait, what?

Noah: It was about how following your bliss is the clearest path to success.

Allie: Excuse me? Wrong.

Noah: Are we not listening to the same podcast?

Allie: Following your bliss? That was nowhere in the podcast.

Noah: Okay, so the guy might have worded it a little bit differently, but that was the general gist of the episode. Ambition’s not enough. You have to truly love what you’re doing. Otherwise, why even bother?

Diane: It is so interesting how you heard such different things from it. I’ll have to listen myself.

Allie: No, you know, ignore Noah. He obviously wasn’t paying close attention. Probably doodling.

Noah: Hey, I can multi-task.

****************

Diane: So, Jack’s granddaughter and Noah Newman. Hmm. Think there’s something budding there?

Traci: I have no idea. I know that Allie is very quiet at the house, and Noah seems to have found a whole new side of her.

Diane: It appears so. She’s really cute with him.

Traci: I don’t know her very well yet, but my impression is that she is an intelligent and thoughtful young woman.

Diane: I didn’t really know her either when I first started trying to bring her and Jack together, but as soon as I met Allie, I knew it would be good for both of them.

Traci: I have already praised you for that, Diane. Am I gonna have to continue thanking you over and over?

Adam: Kyle and Summer had a restraining order drawn up so Locke has to stay away from the kid.

Sally: Oh. Well, that’s cold.

[ Sighs ] How does Summer get away with doing things like that while people still think I’m the mean girl?

Adam: Well, being a Newman has its privileges.

****************

Jack: Don’t you see that you accomplished exactly the opposite? Exactly the opposite! You convinced her and anyone within earshot in a hotel lobby that our relationship was nothing more than a vengeful little game, a convenient weapon to use against an old enemy.

Phyllis: That’s not what i was doing. I was not doing that at all. I cannot believe you’re saying these things about me, seriously. We have gotten so close and we have come so far, and it took so long.

Jack: Yeah, that’s my point exactly. It took so long that I’d actually given up hope that it would ever happen? Neither one of us were ready to move to the next step, and that was fine with me because i cherished our friendship. And then you changed your mind when Diane came to town.

Phyllis: Jack, it’s not like that at all. I can’t believe you would think that of me.

Jack: What am I supposed to think? I heard what you said. “I accelerated things with Jack to shove it in your face, Diane.” What, you didn’t say those words?

Adam: So, is this like your office now? I mean, might as well be. There’s nowhere else to go. You could just get your mail forwarded here. Maybe you could ask Abby, put a sign out front — “Ashland Locke world headquarters.”

Ashland: Don’t you have someplace else to be?

Adam: Just waiting for my food.

Ashland: Could you possibly wait somewhere else?

Adam: I could, but someone would come in here and take my seat because there’s a long line outside, people waiting to come in here and insult you. I actually had to take a number. Man, people really don’t like you in this town.

Ashland: You actually sound jealous.

Adam: [Chuckles] How do you figure that?

Ashland: Well, before i slipped up, you were the town pariah. I get the sense that you miss all those people hating you. Because if they don’t hate you, then they’re probably not actually paying attention to you at all.

Adam: Well, touché. But I did get back on the radar of all the people that matter to me when I maneuvered you out of the family business.

Sharon: Hey, Nick. Um…can I get you coffee?

Nick: No, I’m good, thanks. Just glad to see you smiling. I wasn’t sure you’d be working. I thought maybe you’d want some downtime after the wedding.

Sharon: No, I prefer to stay busy, just helps me keep my mind focused on the positive. But with Ashland Locke and Diane Jenkins traipsing through here, I’ve certainly had a lot of diversions.

Nick: And just one of them is a handful. How did it go?

Sharon: Um, I’d prefer not to get into the details, but I got a lot off my chest, and I said what was on my mind, and, you know, it was — it was fine. I’m fine.

************************

Chance: Well, he is sorely missed in the department, I’ll tell you. And everyone down there, we care about you, Sharon. We understand this was very suddeand, well, we just can’t help but worry.

Sharon: Well, please tell them not to worry about me. You know, Rey’s spirit is with me all the time. I feel it guiding me, supporting me. But what about you? You lost your friend and your partner. How are you doing?

Chance: I’m okay. I’m okay. And just like you, I feel him with me, watching over me. Hopefully not judging my detective skills.

Sharon: [ Chuckles ] Of course not. He really admired you, and he would be thrilled to know how well you’re doing now at home and at work

Jack: Well, we’re obviously not here to try to get back in sync since you brought me to a very public place.

Phyllis: You’re under a lot of pressure these days with Jabot and the she-devil. You deserve the finer things in life, I think.

Jack: Berries.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm.

Jack: Doughnuts.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Jack: And bubbly.

Phyllis: Right.

Jack: [ Chuckles ]

Phyllis: I have a bunch of different combinations. This is our — our high-carb combination [Laughs] Obviously. But… and — and we can celebrate, the two of us right now, with the possibility of Summer and Harrison and Kyle moving back to genoa city.

Jack: Uh-huh, that would certainly change things.

Phyllis: Yeah, it would answer my lonely mom dreams.

********

Ashland: I thought the donation would remain anonymous. I never want anyone to —

Sharon: Okay, we both know that’s a load of crap! But I am glad, however, that Rey’s name will live on in association with good works and helping people improve their lives and that yours won’t. Because from everything that i have seen, you have done nothing but lie to people who unfortunately trusted you. And I don’t want you to think that this grand gesture absolves you of anything because it doesn’t. You lied about having a fatal illness that kills millions of people every year, and clearly you don’t take that seriously, but I do.

Ashland: I know.

Sharon: And when I confronted you a few weeks ago about your lies, you nearly swore up and down that it was some smear campaign against you and that your hands were clean, but now I know. I know the truth, and I know the depth of your deception. You faked your illness, you lied about your recovery, and it was all for some personal gain.

Ashland: I deeply regret what I’ve done.

Sharon: You have no idea what it’s like to hear your doctor tell you that you have cancer. All you can do is wonder how much time you have left. And there are a lot of days that you don’t want to get out of bed, but you do it anyway because you don’t want the people who love you and care about you to worry. There are days when you are so miserable that you seriously just want it all to come to an end. But I was really lucky. I had a lot of people around me caring for me and loving me, and they were there for me all the time, whether I wanted them there or not. They got me through the treatments and through nausea, nightmares. And, you know, to this day, the thing that haunts me the most about it is what my illness did to them and the tears that they shed and — and the bargains that they had to make with God. You did that. You put Victoria and Harrison through that on purpose. You were intentionally cruel to them, and there is no amount of money in the world that could ever make amends for that. You’re disgusting.

Young & The Restless Update

Y&R logo

Recap written by Christine

Summer followed Phyllis downstairs to the hotel lobby and told her not to run away. She wanted her mom to explain what she meant when she said she screwed things up with Jack. Phyllis spotted Amanda and used her as an excuse to end Summer’s questioning. Phyllis said she had to get to work planning for the launch party that was going to take place in the ballroom. Amanda asked if everything was okay. Phyllis said she and Jack just had an argument but she could fix it. Amanda didn’t want to interrupt Phyllis and Summer’s discussion. Phyllis turned to Summer and said that she (Phyllis) had just overreacted, and everything was fine.

Once Amanda and Phyllis were alone, Amanda asked what happened with Jack. Phyllis stated that Diane goaded her, and Phyllis stuck it to her by engaging in PDA with Jack. Jack walked in on the argument between Phyllis and Diane. Amanda recalled asking Phyllis if that’s what she’d been doing, and she’d denied it. Phyllis said she lied to Amanda – she’d even lied to herself. Phyllis was scared because all her old habits were coming back. She said Diane knew how to exploit her insecurities. Phyllis admitted that it felt good to stick it to Diane, but then she saw how hurt Jack looked. Phyllis felt horrible about hurting Jack, and she detested Diane.

Amanda thought Phyllis needed to stop blaming Diane and own her mistake. Amanda told Phyllis to fight for Jack. Phyllis said she went to Jack’s house. She felt bad for betraying him. She admitted she did everything she swore she wouldn’t do. She’d said she wouldn’t revert to her old ways, and Jack said he wouldn’t tolerate it. Phyllis wanted to be in a great and loving relationship, but Diane was making her revert to her old ways. Amanda said that trying to change was a process, and a momentary slip wasn’t proof that Phyllis was beyond redemption. Amanda asked if Phyllis was going to work and try and fix things with Jack. Phyllis didn’t respond. Amanda thought Phyllis should try and hold things together with Jack after everything they’d gone through to get to this point.

Ashland was in his suite when a courier served him with the restraining order. He stormed out of the room.

At the Abbott house, Kyle asked what was going on with Jack and Phyllis. Jack said it was none of Kyle’s business. Kyle noted that Phyllis was his mother in law, and Jack said that was all the more reason to end this discussion. Jack said that he and Phyllis had a minor disagreement, but they’d get through it. Kyle sensed that Jack and Phyllis weren’t taking things slow, like Jack had said they were going to. Kyle asked if Phyllis and Jack were together. Jack said he and Phyllis were not together in any meaningful sense. Kyle recalled that Jack was so happy the morning after his night with Phyllis. When Jack had questioned Phyllis’ timing, Kyle had just assumed Jack was just nervous. Kyle asked if he’d been wrong.

Jack changed the subject and said he looked over Kyle’s proposal and decided that Jabot should purchase Marchetti. Kyle was excited, but he hoped Jack wasn’t doing this just to get him and Summer back home. Jack said he learned a long time ago not to let emotions interfere with his decisions. At first he didn’t want to buy another fashion house, but Marchetti was still a powerful brand, even if their books were messy. Jack admitted the best part was that Kyle, Summer and Harrison were coming home. He said Kyle would have to run this by the board, though. Kyle marveled at how quickly things were changing. He and Summer loved Milan, but there was nothing like being around family. Jack said the Abbott house was starting to feel like a home again.

Summer got home to the Abbott house, and Jack made up an excuse to leave. Summer and Kyle touched base on their parents. Summer was bewildered because she thought Phyllis and Jack were doing so well. Phyllis had been so happy things were progressing. Kyle got the impression that Jack was playing it more cautiously. Summer wanted to get to the bottom of the argument so she could help. Kyle wanted Jack and Phyllis to be together too, but he didn’t think he and Summer should get involved.

Kyle told Summer the news about Jack deciding to buy Marchetti. She was elated. He said that the board had to improve it, so it wasn’t a done deal. She was sure it’d work out. He was wondering how she felt about moving back with Diane and Ashland in the picture. She said this was their home, and it was where she wanted to be and where she wanted to raise Harrison. He got a text saying Ashland had been served. The restraining order was in effect. She was glad. He hoped that was the last they saw on Ashland and that they didn’t just pour gasoline on a fire.

Traci bumped into Allie and Diane at Crimson Lights and accepted Allie’s invitation to join them. Traci and Allie hadn’t crossed paths at the house much, because Traci was a night owl and Allie was an early riser. Allie was falling in love with Genoa City, and she’d gotten Jack’s permission to stay a little longer. Diane shared that she was thinking of sticking around too. Traci thought it was great to having so many relatives under the same roof again. Allie found it strange, since she was an only child, but she was enjoying herself. She’d been hanging out with Harrison and Summer. Diane asked if Allie missed LA. Allie said California was filled with memories of her dad, and she thought it was good to stay away a little longer. She didn’t want to overstay her welcome at the Abbott house, though. Now that she had her Master’s she thought it was time to think of the rest of her life. Traci encouraged Allie to stay as long as she wanted to. Diane said Jack must be over the moon with Allie, Kyle and Harrison under one roof. Traci said they were all grateful to have Allie in their lives. Diane asked Allie what she was going to do with her degree. Allie said she wasn’t sure. She was rethinking her original plans. Traci asked if Allie wanted to tour the lab at Jabot, where Ashley started out. Allie said Ashley was in a different field of study, but Allie was still eager to learn more. Traci said Keemo was a chemist at Jabot too. Allie wanted to stay here longer to learn more about her family, including her dad.

Noah went to Crimson Lights, and Allie introduced him to Diane, as the one who bought her father’s house. Noah was aware of Diane as Kyle’s mom. Noah asked if Allie heard the latest episode of The Grinning Soul. Traci loved that one too. She asked what the latest episode was about. Allie said it was about ambition and how to chart your own course for a successful career. Noah said it was actually about how following your bliss was the path to success. Diane thought it was so interesting how Noah and Allie had different interpretations of the podcast. Noah and Allie bantered about it, and Traci politely suggested they go settle this somewhere else because she had some stuff to talk about with Diane.

Diane and Traci were alone. Diane thought Allie was cute with Noah. Traci thought he seemed to bring out a different side of her great niece. Traci didn’t know Allie well, but she seemed to be an intelligent and thoughtful young woman. Diane crowed about her good decision to bring Jack and Allie together. Traci noted that she’d already thanked Diane for this, and she wondered if Diane was fishing for more praise. Diane admitted she had her own agenda for introducing Jack and Allie. She said she’d just apologized to Allie about it. Traci was impressed, and she asked how Allie felt. Diane stated that Allie didn’t pull any punches with her. Traci was glad Allie was holding her own. Traci wanted to get to know Allie better. Diane said Traci and Allie had a lovely connection. Traci burst out laughing and said Diane used to have more finesse. Diane laughed too. Traci thought Diane was doing all the right things.

Out on the patio, Noah said when he pursued a job to please other people, he was the least happy, but when he did started focusing on his art, doors opened for him. Allie said Noah was a Newman, so doors would always open for him. He explained that those doors were in the business world, where he was the least happy. She said most people didn’t have the luxury to choose happiness over a paycheck. He agreed. She was raised to chart her own course. The message Allie received from the podcast was to set your goal and go after it. He asked what goals she was setting for herself. She had no clue yet. That was why she hadn’t gone back to California. For the first time in her life, she didn’t know what was coming next. She worked hard for her master’s and she’d assumed she’d have a job by now, but then her dad died and she found out she had a whole new family. It was making her rethink what job she should have and where she should live.

Noah could relate to packing up his life and moving. It wasn’t easy. He teased that she might go to the dark side and follow a non-linear path. Not a chance; Allie said she was going to make a bunch of lists after this. She guessed that was alien to him. He said he received a lot of lists when he was designing a venue for his sister’s wedding. Allie suspected Noah ignored the lists and followed his instinct. He said that was true.

Allie said Noah struck her as someone who followed his gut. He said he’d take it as a compliment, but she smiled and said it was an observation. He suggested they could come to a compromise on The Grinning Soul episode. He thought the message of the episode was that there were wildly diverging paths to happiness, and your mission was to find the one that worked for you. She teased that he missed the point entirely.

Nikki and Victoria were back at work after their spa trip. Victoria appreciated Nikki agreeing to come home early so they could make it to a work meeting. Nikki thought Victoria should go home and rest from the jet lag, especially since her injury from her accident had flared up. Victoria said she was fine. Nikki was concerned because Victoria had been quiet on the jet and at the spa, and she’d only been talking about work since they returned. Nikki asked if Victoria was able to get Ashland out of her system. Victoria didn’t want to have this discussion now. Nikki said that, before they left, Victoria said that she couldn’t turn off her feelings for Ashland on a dime. Victoria did some thinking in Europe and realized she couldn’t run away from her feelings. She said she had to face the sadness, pain and humiliation and learn to live with it. Victoria felt like the family felt that they knew her needs better than she did. She’d decided not to talk her feelings through with anyone. Nikki texted Victor that she wasn’t sure the trip worked.

Victor got Nikki’s text. He was at Newman Media. Ashland showed up and accused Victor of being behind the restraining order keeping him from Harrison. Ashland thought that Victor had the judge pull some strings. He said not to deny it. “Why would I deny that? The boy needs protection from you,” Victor replied. Ashland didn’t think he deserved this. Victor hoped Ashland would violate the order and go to jail.

Ashland didn’t know why he was surprised that Victor was just as ruthless as everyone said he was. “I warned you not to cross me or my family. You ignored the warning. So now you got to suffer the consequences,” Victor said. Ashland said he set this plan in motion before Victoria’s love changed him. Ashland was sure that Victor had sought forgiveness in the past. Ashland asked why he didn’t deserve the same opportunity. Victor snapped that Ashland didn’t deserve forgiveness. Victor didn’t think Ashland knew the meaning of the word remorse. Ashland wished he could make Victor understand how sorry he was. Victor blasted Ashland for ensnaring Victoria and using her to try and enlarge his empire. Victor said he wouldn’t allow Ashland to use that innocent little boy as a reason to stay in town. He ordered Ashland to take the half a billion dollars he received and get the hell out of town. Ashland decided to stop trying to convince Victor that he was redeemable. Ashland said Victoria still loved him, and they still had a bond. He predicted that the more Victor treated Victoria like a child, the more she’d resent him for driving Ashland away. Victor was sure he and Victoria would be fine. He reiterated that Ashland should take the money he gave him and leave. Ashland left the office.

Victor went to Newman Enterprises and reunited with Nikki. He asked why she didn’t stay in Europe longer and give him more time to get rid of Ashland. She said Victoria insisted on returning now. Victoria walked in, and Victor told her that Ashland paid him a visit, and they had a productive conversation. Victor thought their problem might soon be over. Victoria asked Victor what he’d done now.

Ashland went back to his suite and remembered what Victor told him about leaving town. He grabbed his suitcase and speedily began to pack his things.

Summer: Mom, come on. Don’t run away. Please just talk to me. You just admitted that you screwed things up with jack.

Phyllis: Okay, listen, keep your voice down.

Summer: Okay. [ Scoffs ] I mean, what did you mean by that, though? You were super optimistic about where things were headed with you guys, and then the second kyle and I walked in, it was obvious something was wrong. And now look at you. You’re terrible at hiding your feelings. You’re scaring me, so please just tell me what’s going on.

Phyllis: What — hey, hey. Amanda’s here, okay? I have to get to work.

Summer: Mom.

Phyllis: I have to get to work. There’s a big chancellor-winters launch party. I have to set it up. People are waiting for me in the ballroom, okay? We’ll talk later. Shh.

Amanda: Is everything alright?

Jack: Once they give you a real timetable, then get back to me. Alright, thanks.

Kyle: I know you said everything’s fine, but what did you mean when you called phyllis too predictable? What’s going on with you guys?

Jack: No offense, son, this is really none of your business.

Kyle: We are talking about my mother-in-law.

Jack: Yeah, all the more reason to change the subject. Look, phyllis and I had a minor…disagreement. We will find our way through this.

Kyle: You said you were taking things slow, testing the waters, but I’m getting the feeling you blew right past the casual phase.

Jack: What do you mean by that?

Kyle: Whatever summer and i interrupted earlier was more than just a little spat. Dad, did your night at phyllis’ turn into something more serious? Are you back together?

Jack: Believe me, phyllis and I were not — are not together in any meaningful sense.

Kyle: Okay, then what went sideways? The other morning when you got home, you were so happy, and i know you were questioning phyllis’ timing, but I figured that was just your nerves talking, not a real thing. Was I wrong? Did something else happen?

Allie: Traci, hi.

Traci: Well, hello.

Allie: Hi. Would you care to join us?

Diane: Yes, please do.

Traci: Sure. I — sure. Why not?

[ Chuckles ] Allie, I am not running into you very much at the house. I wonder if we’re just keeping different schedules. I’m kind of a night owl.

Allie: And I’m kind of an early bird. I like to go out for early runs.

Traci: Oh.

Allie: By the way, I have really enjoyed exploring genoa city.

Traci: Well, how are you finding it so far?

Allie: Truthfully, I’m kind of falling in love with the place. I’ve already asked jack if i could stay a little bit longer.

Traci: Well, that is just wonderful. I’m so happy to hear it.

Diane: Me too. And in case you haven’t heard, I’m thinking of sticking around myself.

Victoria: The problem with going away on vacation…

Nikki: Hmm. A working vacation anyway. But it sure was nice to have a change of scenery.

Victoria: The spa that you chose was absolutely fabulous. Thank you for arranging such an elegant treat for us.

Nikki: Oh, I’m so glad you enjoyed it, darling.

Victoria: I did, and i appreciate also that you agreed to come home early so that we could make it to the finance meeting.

Nikki: Yeah, it — it was good that we were there in person. I much prefer it to video calls.

Victoria: I do, too.

Nikki: But, you know, the jet lag is gonna start to set in, so I think we ought to get you home to rest, especially with your flare-up of your accident.

Victoria: Mom, I’m not the least bit tired. I’d actually like to review the redlines on the singapore deal. I’d like to be able to get those contracts out by next week. I know it’s probably gonna take me a while, so if you want to go home, feel free to — is there something wrong?

Nikki: I don’t know. You tell me. You were quiet at the spa, quiet on the jet. In fact, you haven’t talked to me about anything except work ever since we left for switzerland. Honey, I just need to know — did it work? Were you able to get ashland out of your system?

[ Knock on door ]

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

Ashland locke?

Ashland: Yeah.

This is for you.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ] Okay, this is a freezer, not a time capsule.

Amanda: You two seem upset, so…

Phyllis: No, no, no. It’s nothing. Jack and I, we just had a little argument. No big deal. I can fix it before anybody knows the long, boring story. But you’re here to discuss the launch party, right?

Amanda: Yeah, I am, but, you know, everybody, they’re in the ballroom. They’re checking out the space. They’re talking logistics, so I’ll just let you stay here. We — I can meet you there.

Phyllis: No, no, no, no. No, it’s all good. It’s all good. Okay? You — I’m fine, summer. I overreacted. You know, I do that. Okay? No big deal, but I need to get to work. I need to discuss this party. So we’ll talk later. I’m gonna sign a couple things, then we’ll go.

Jack: I meant what I said. Whatever I’m dealing with in my personal life is nothing for you to be concerned about. Right now I would rather be talking about jabot’s purchase of marchetti.

Kyle: Are you rethinking your position?

Jack: I looked over your proposal very carefully. I did my own due diligence. Played with the numbers a bit. And despite my early reservations, I think it’s the right move for us.

Kyle: [ Chuckles ] This is great news! And summer’s gonna be just as thrilled.

Jack: Well, both of you did excellent work.

Kyle: Well, of course, now i have to ask, you aren’t doing this just to get us back here? I know you had your concerns about the acquisition.

Jack: I think you know me better than that. I learned a long time ago not to let emotions interfere with my decisions. No, I didn’t want to buy another fashion house, since we just exited the fashion business, but when I looked things over a little more carefully, i realized marchetti still is a powerful brand, regardless how messy their books are.

Kyle: That’ll help with the price, for sure, and make the deal more attractive.

Jack: And I will admit, the best part of the whole thing is that you, summer, and harrison will be moving back home, and i carefully kept that consideration away from my financial analysis.

Kyle: So? Do we have a deal?

Jack: No, well, you’re gonna have to run it by the board first. They’re gonna have to approve. But I will get that first meeting started and help you keep moving things forward.

Kyle: Dad, just thank you. I couldn’t be more pleased. And I promise — promise to wow the board.

Jack: I have no doubt that you’ll be successful.

Kyle: I mean, so much has changed so fast. I — summer and I, we love living in milan with harrison, but it’s been nice being around family again. There’s really nothing like it.

Jack: Yeah. The abbott house is starting to feel like a home again.

Traci: I can’t tell you how great it is to have so many members of the family all living under the same roof again.

Allie: It’s definitely a little strange to be in such a big, busy house — in a good way. I grew up as an only child, so I’m not used to having so many people around everywhere I turn.

Traci: Is this overwhelming for you? Do you need some more privacy?

Allie: Oh, no, actually, I’m really enjoying it.

Traci: Good.

Allie: I’ve been hanging out a ton with harrison, who is just so adorable, and then of course there’s summer, who’s been incredibly welcoming. As all of you guys have. I’m very grateful.

Diane: Allie, do you miss la at all? For me, I always felt like a transplant, but for you, it’s — it’s home.

Allie: It is. But when I think of la now, all I think of is my dad. And I think it’s a good idea to stay away from california for a little bit longer.

Traci: Well, sweetie, you’re grieving. I know what that feels like.

Allie: Yeah, but, traci, i don’t want to overstay my welcome. I finished school and I have my master’s now. And it’s time to start thinking about the rest of my life.

Diane: Oh, that’s a daunting thought.

[ Chuckles ]

Traci: If I might offer just a word of advice, take your time deciding what you want to do next. Stay and enjoy the hustle and bustle of our house as long as you want to.

Allie: That is so kind of you, traci. I appreciate that.

Traci: Well, it’s lovely having you. I hope that you’ll stay a good long time.

Diane: Jack must be over the moon with you and kyle and that cute little harrison all under one roof.

Traci: Yes. We’re all really grateful to have allie in our lives, diane.

Diane: [ Chuckles ] Lash sensational sky high

Phyllis: Alright, I just have a couple things to take care of before we go into the ballroom.

Amanda: You’re not fooling anyone, you know.

Phyllis: What are you talking about?

Amanda: I understand you not wanting to worry summer, but, you know, everyone in the ballroom, they have a lot to keep them busy for a little while, so why don’t you talk to me? Why don’t you tell me what happened with jack?

Phyllis: Um, okay. Jack and I, we’ve been getting along great. Everything’s going great. And then diane came to town and goaded me into something that I shouldn’t have done.

Amanda: What did you do exactly?

Phyllis: I engaged in “pda” with jack just to stick it to diane. And then we argued about it here. Jack walked in, he overheard everything.

Amanda: Okay, phyllis, this sounds really bad.

Phyllis: Yeah. Yeah, it’s bad.

Amanda: Didn’t I ask you if that’s what you were doing? And I believe you said that that was not your intention at all, that the timing was coincidental.

Phyllis: I lied to you. I lied to myself. Really. That woman, I mean, I don’t think I understand to the extent of how she gets to me, amanda. Seriously, it’s like all of these old habits are coming back, and it scares me. Honestly. I mean, she knows how to take any little insecurity that i might have, and she knows how to exploit it. I thought all of that was behind me.

Amanda: Clearly it’s not.

Phyllis: I mean, honestly, i didn’t want to hurt jack, and what happened between the two of us, I mean…

[ Sighs ] It felt good. It felt good to stick it to diane. It felt good to throw it in her face. But then he was standing there and the look on his face, he was so hurt.

Amanda: As much as I hate to say it, this does not sound good.

Phyllis: It’s the worst.

Amanda: Yeah. Phyllis, you can talk to him. You can convince him that you didn’t mean it. Right?

Phyllis: I don’t know. I’ll try. Honestly, I just — I feel horrible about doing that to him. I detest diane jenkins. I detest that woman.

Diane: What do you think the future might hold for you, allie? What kind of career are you interested in?

Allie: Well, my degree is in chemical engineering, but I have no idea how I want to apply it.

Diane: [ Chuckles ] I see.

Allie: Yeah, I thought I was headed down a very specific path in la, but now I am totally rethinking things.

Traci: Would you like to tour the lab at jabot? After all, that’s where ashley started as a chemist.

Allie: Yes, we had talked about that. She is in a different field of study than mine, but I’d love to learn more. Finding that out, that we had that in common, was a really nice surprise.

Diane: I can imagine.

Traci: And, of course, that’s where keemo was a chemist.

Allie: That’s right, jack told me that, that they had worked together. And that’s also another reason why I wanted to stay longer was to learn more about the family I didn’t know I had and the dad I thought I knew.

Victoria: You know, on second thought, I do feel jet lag setting in. Let’s not have this conversation right now.

Nikki: Well, darling, before we left, you were very honest about your feelings for ashland. You said that you couldn’t just stop loving him on a dime. And then you agreed to this trip to get some distance, to start making the emotional break. I’m just saying that you can be honest now, too. Did it work? I’m not going to judge you.

Victoria: There’s nothing to judge.

Nikki: Victoria —

Victoria: Look. I did some thinking in europe.

Nikki: And what did you conclude?

Victoria: That I have been running away from my feelings because they’re messy and they are complicated and they’re confusing. But I can’t escape them, mom. It doesn’t work that way. I have to face all of the sadness and the pain and the humiliation and whatever else is there, and I have to — have to learn to live with it. And I’ve accepted that. But the rest of you haven’T.

Nikki: The rest of who?

Victoria: The family. But you and dad especially. You all think you know better than I do what I need and you don’t trust me to sort this out on my own. You think I’m gonna do something wrong and that you’re gonna have to step in and save me from myself, and I’m sorry, but i feel like I’m being micro-managed right now. So that’s why I’ve decided I’m not gonna talk this through with anyone. Not even you.

Summer: Hey, guys.

Kyle: Hey, babe. Dad and I were just going over my presentation. You’re welcome to sit in, if you’d like.

Jack: You know what? You seem to have the framework. I’m sure you can work it all out. I got an errand I’ve got to run, so you can get to it. Please excuse me.

Summer: Well, that was abrupt.

Kyle: Yeah, I’ve got some news I want to share. Don’t worry, it’s good, but first, did you catch up with your mom? Is phyllis okay?

Summer: I can’t tell. She was acting very weird, even for her.

Kyle: Weird how?

Summer: She admitted that she screwed things up with jack somehow, and then she totally backpedaled.

Kyle: Yeah, dad’s upset, too. Not that I can get him to talk about it.

Summer: [ Sighs ] There is definitely something going on between our parents. If you’ve been living with heart disease,

[ Telephone rings ]

Victor: Yes. Alright, send him in.

Ashland: You’re behind this, aren’t you?

Victor: What’s that?

Ashland: This restraining order keeping me from seeing harrison. You pulled some strings with the judge or maybe had your lackey michael baldwin do it for you. Don’t deny it.

Victor: Why would I deny that? The boy needs protection from you.

Ashland: This is a farce. I’ve done nothing to deserve this over-the-top reaction.

Victor: This a judge’s order. You best not violate it. Otherwise, you’ll end up in jail. Come to think of it, why don’t you violate it? We’ll all enjoy seeing you behind bars.

Summer: It’s kind of bewildering. I thought mom and jack were doing so well. She was so happy that things were finally progressing. What is it? Do you know something different?

Kyle: When I talked to my dad, I got the impression he was just playing it more cautious.

Summer: He doesn’t want to be with my mom?

Kyle: No. No, no, no. That’s not it. Just that he’s concerned about getting hurt again.

Summer: [ Sighs ] I shouldn’t have let mom brush me off. I want to get to the bottom of what they argued about, see if I can help somehow.

Kyle: I think the best way for us to help is by staying out of it. They’re adults. So are we. We shouldn’t be meddling in their love life.

Summer: But if they need our support…

Kyle: My dad made it clear he didn’t want me worrying. Let him handle it.

Summer: That’s basically what my mom said, but —

Kyle: No, no “buts.” I think that’s exactly what we should let them do.

Summer: [ Sighs ]

Amanda: I think you need to stop, okay? You need to stop blaming diane. You need to start taking responsibility for what you did. Okay? You made a mistake. Own it. But don’t let that stop you. Fight.

Phyllis: Fight.

Amanda: Fight.

Phyllis: Yes. I got that. I went to jack’s and I felt bad. I really did. There was so much pain on his face. I really betrayed him. I mean, I… I’m doing everything I swore i wouldn’t do.

Amanda: I know, I know.

Phyllis: I mean, I hesitated. I-I really did. I hesitated to get back together with him, and… and I — I said I wouldn’t revert to my old ways, and — and he said he wouldn’t tolerate it. Diane! Oh, but it is diane, amanda. Diane came back from the dead. I mean, what am I to do? I want to be in a great, loving relationship, but it’s diane! It’s diane who is making me do this. Diane is making me revert to my old ways. Diane is bringing me down to her level. Diane is doing this.

[ Sighs ]

Amanda: Phyllis, the thing about trying to change, it’s a process. It’s not an event. So you can’t help but backslide. Okay? We need to look at this as a momentary slip, not as some proof that you are beyond redemption, okay?

Phyllis: Okay.

Amanda: Okay, good. So tell me, where did you leave things with jack?

Phyllis: Uh, I went to his house, we argued. Kyle and summer walked in.

Amanda: Oh, I guess that’s why summer was here.

Phyllis: Yeah, yeah, yeah. She followed me here. She wanted answers. She knew something was up.

Amanda: You’re gonna — you’re gonna try and fix things with jack, though, right? Phyllis. After everything you and jack have been through, you — you’ve taken so long to get to this point. Don’t you think that it’s worth it to do whatever it takes to hold it together? We do it every night.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Diane: I admire anyone who goes into science. There are so many advances happening so quickly, it must be a challenge keeping up with it all.

Allie: Well, it helps being organized and, of course, staying on top of the professional journals. Noah.

Noah: Hey, there.

Allie: Hey. How’s it going?

Noah: Pretty good.

Traci: Hey, noah, you’re looking well.

Noah: Thank you, traci. You too.

Allie: Noah, this is diane. She — she bought my father’s house in la.

Noah: Yes, kyle’s mom. I heard you were back in town. I’m noah newman.

Diane: Oh, of course. It’s good to see you.

Noah: Well, I’m glad you stuck around. We never got a chance to talk about that episode of “the grinning soul.” Did you listen to it yet?

Allie: Of course I did.

Traci: Okay, okay, okay.

Allie: If you say so.

Traci: Why don’t you two go and settle this somewhere else? Go sit down, have a chat. Diane and I have some things to catch up on ourselves.

Allie: Alright.

Diane: Thank you for keeping me company, allie.

Allie: Of course. I enjoyed our conversation.

Diane: Oh, is enjoyed the right word?

Allie: You gave me a lot to think about — how’s that? And with that said, I am gonna follow my bliss for a refill at the counter.

Noah: Oh, nicely done. Yeah.

Allie: I’ll see you at home later.

Traci: Okay.

[ Chuckles ]

Kyle: We’d both like to see our folks get back together, but we need to let them figure this out on their own. Besides, you and I are about to get extremely busy.

Summer: Because of the news that you mentioned?

Kyle: My dad reviewed the materials we gave him, and he reversed course. He thinks it’s a good idea for jabot to buy marchetti.

Summer: [ Laughs ] Oh, god, we did it! We’re coming home!

Kyle: Yes, we are.

Summer: Oh, my god. This is amazing. My heart is racing. I was starting to get worried that his reservations were too strong and that we were gonna have to scrap the whole thing.

Kyle: We still have to pitch it to the board, so it’s not a done deal.

Summer: At least it’s a start.

Kyle: Yeah, my dad and I were going over my presentation. He’s trying to set up a meeting for tomorrow morning, so I’m probably looking at an all-nighter.

Summer: Nah, I predict that you’re already prepared to nail it. You’ll get your beauty sleep.

Kyle: We’ll see.

Summer: God, this is going to really energize jabot.

Kyle: And who better to convince the board of what a coup it’ll be to buy marchetti than you?

Summer: Could it be true? We’re really coming home? I’ve tried so hard not to get my hopes up.

Kyle: It’s true if we want it to be.

Summer: Okay, then let’s make it happen.

Kyle: I know when you first came up with the idea, you were only thinking about the positives — being around the abbotts and the newmans again. You didn’t factor in my mother or ashland.

Summer: This is our home. Yours and mine. It’s where I want to be and where I want to raise harrison.

Kyle: It’ll be good to have harrison around a strong, loving family again.

Summer: Especially his doting grandfather. This is gonna make your dad so happy.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Kyle: [ Sighs ] Ashland’s been served. Restraining order’s in effect.

Summer: [ Sighs ] It’s official. Thank god.

Kyle: I hope that’s the last we’ve seen of the guy… and didn’t just pour gasoline on a fire.

Ashland: I don’t know why I’m surprised. You’re just as ruthless as everyone has always said you are.

Victor: I warned you not to cross me or my family. You ignored the warning. So now you got to suffer the consequences, don’t you?

Ashland: Victor, my mistakes are old ones. A plan set in motion before i was changed by victoria’s love.

Victor: Will you please stop that sentimental crap with me?

Ashland: I know you’ve been in this place where I am right now — needing forgiveness for something you’ve done and lived to regret. Why don’t I deserve that same opportunity?

Victor: You don’t deserve forgiveness. And you’re not sorry. You don’t understand the meaning of the word remorse, do you? Now you’re out of options. You’re desperate. If I didn’t have such disdain for you, I’d almost feel sorry for you.

Ashland: Victor, if I could just make you understand how sorry I am.

Victor: You’re not sorry?! I know what you were up to pretty well from the beginning. You ensnared my daughter. You made her fall in love with you. You married her. That big wedding in tuscany! You married her because you wanted to enlarge your corporation, your empire. And now you want to use that innocent little boy as a reason to stay in town? Ain’t gonna happen! I won’t allow it. Kyle and summer won’t allow it. The courts won’t allow it, so take your money I gave you — $500 million — and get the hell out of town! So what’s going on?

[ Chuckles ]

Diane: Fair enough. Well, allie is also aware that i had my own agenda, and in fact, I just apologized to her and owned up to it.

Traci: Wow. I’m impressed. Was she?

Diane: Uh…she understood and accepted why I did what i did. But she didn’t pull any punches.

Traci: Good. I’m glad to hear she’s holding her own. I’m really enjoying getting to know her better.

Diane: Yeah, it appears you two have a lovely connection. I really like seeing that.

Traci: [ Laughs ] Oh, brother.

Diane: What, too much?

Traci: Too much? Diane, I remembered that you had a little bit more finesse.

[ Laughs ] Listen, I will give you this. You’re doing all the right things. Keep it up.

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Noah: I can speak from personal experience — any time I’ve done a job to please other people, it’s been a disaster. But when I started pursuing my art, doors started to open.

Allie: Yeah, but you’re a newman. Doors open for you.

Noah: Yeah, but being a newman opens up doors in the business world, and that’s where I was the least happy.

Allie: But most people don’t have the luxury to choose happiness over a steady paycheck.

Noah: Yeah, that’s true.

Allie: I was raised to chart my own success, fight for my own career, and that’s what I took away from the podcast. The idea is that you set a goal and then you make a plan for it and you go after it. Mindfully, of course.

Noah: Okay, so now that you’re out in the real world, what goals are you setting for yourself?

Allie: I have no clue. And that’s pretty freaky. That’s also the reason why I’ve not gone back to california and why I’ve just been hanging out, drifting a little. It is the first time in my life where I don’t know what’s coming next. And, um…I worked hard for my master’S. I assumed I would have a job by now and be happily working. But then my dad died. And, um…and then i found out I had a whole other family that I never knew I had, and that threw everything off course.

[ Chuckles ] So now I am rethinking everything — what job I should have, where it should be.

Ashland: You don’t believe I’m redeemable. And I can’t convince you otherwise. So I give up — on that front, at least. But know this, victor — your daughter still loves me. We still have a bond. Victoria has not been able to give that up. So the more you treat her like a child, the more you try to tell her what to think or how to feel or how to run her life, the more she is going to resent you for driving me away, and then you will have your own consequences to deal with.

Victor: You’re pressing your luck. We’ll be fine. Now take your $500 million and get the hell out of here. You’ll be alone somewhere. Now get out. Alice loves the scent of gain so much,

Noah: You got some big decisions ahead of you.

Allie: Yes, I do.

Noah: Well, believe it or not, I sympathize.

Allie: Why wouldn’t I believe you?

Noah: It’s just a figure of speech.

Allie: [ Laughs ]

Noah: Anyway, I’ve picked up my life and moved before. It’s not easy. But now you got me thinking.

Allie: What?

Noah: I don’t know, maybe it’s time for you to jump over to the dark, you know, follow the non-linear path.

Allie: No, no, no way. Right after this, I’m gonna go to the store, I’m gonna buy a whole bunch of planners, and make a whole bunch of lists.

[ Both laugh ] That’s probably completely alien to you, huh?

Noah: Hey, I had to follow a lot of directions for my sister’s wedding. There was a list coming at me from every direction.

Allie: Let me guess, those lists just flew completely over your head.

[ Laughs ] And you — you followed your instinct on designing the space.

Noah: Yeah, yeah, you nailed it.

Allie: You know, they say that I can read people. You seem as someone who just follows his gut.

Noah: Okay, well, I’ll take that as a compliment.

Allie: It’s an observation.

[ Chuckles ]

Noah: Alright, let’s compromise.

Allie: About?

Noah: “The grinning soul” episode.

Allie: Alright. Go for it.

Noah: Maybe — just maybe — the message he was trying to convey is that there are wildly divergent paths to success and happiness. And your mission, should you choose to accept it, is finding a path that works for you.

Allie: Nah. I’m still right. You missed the point entirely.

Victor: My baby.

Nikki: Oh, victor.

Victor: Oh, my baby.

Nikki: Mm.

Victor: I’m so happy you’re back.

Nikki: Mm.

Victor: Mm.

Nikki: I missed you. I’m so glad to be home.

Victor: I’ve missed you. Why didn’t you stay in europe longer? That would’ve given me a chance to get rid of ashland locke.

Nikki: I know we talked about keeping victoria away longer, but she insisted on coming home early.

Victor: Oh.

Victoria: Oh, look at who’s here.

Victor: There you are.

Victoria: Hi.

[ Chuckles ] Hi, dad. How are you?

Victor: What happened?

Victoria: Huh? Oh, nothing, it’s just a little flare-up from the accident. Not a big deal. Mom and I had the most amazing time in europe.

Victor: Anyway, I want to hear all about your trip to europe, I really do. Meanwhile, I have some good news for you. Ashland paid me a visit. We had a very productive conversation.

Victoria: About what?

Victor: Well, I think our trouble may soon be over.

Victoria: Dad, what have you done now?

Victor: Now take your $500 million and get the hell out of here. You’ll be alone somewhere. Now get out.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ]

Next week on “the young and the restless”…

Sharon: Oh, my gosh! Welcome home. Look at you two. You’re glowing!

Tessa: Honeymoons do that.

Victoria: I want to start over, away from this place, away from all of the people, and i don’t want to just imagine it this time. I actually want to do it.

Ashland: You really mean that?

Victoria: [ Chuckles ]

Phyllis: You’re done? After — what, after all of this, this is the end?

Jack: Yeah.

Phyllis: Really?

Jack: This is the end. Goodbye.

Jack: Phyllis, I’ll talk to you later. I can’t do it right now.

Phyllis: Please let me explain what you heard me say to diane, please.

Jack: Frankly, you couldn’t have spelled it out more clearly. The main reason we finally got together, the main reason we kicked our romance into high gear is you wanted to stick it to your old enemy.

Phyllis: Okay, that’s not what it was at all.

Jack: I specifically asked you if you were flaunting our relationship in front of diane because she was needling you. You denied that. I assume you’re here to deny it again. Maybe I should’ve listened to that voice in my head.

Phyllis: Whoa, oh, that voice in your head? You know who that is. That’s diane. She’s putting all those thoughts in your head. She’s doing the same thing to me, jack. That’s what she does. She’s trying to manipulate us. Please do not have her have that power over you. Please, jack.

Summer: My dad says harrison and christian are having a ball at his place.

Kyle: I’m glad nick let him hang out there. It’s the best place for him to be tucked away while we wait for ashland to be served with the restraining order.

Diane: [ Sighs ] I hope I’m not interrupting.

Kyle: Uh, this is a surprise.

Diane: I have been trying to find you two because…I have a confession to make.

Sally: I did it!

Adam: What exactly did you do?

Sally: The deal with hartwell. I closed it. Can you believe it? You should’ve seen how hard i negotiated.

[ Sighs ] Okay, you are really taking the fun out of this.

Adam: I’M… I’m sorry. I know it’s a major coup, so congratulations.

Sally: What’s wrong?

Adam: Just something is on my mind.

Sally: Newman media related?

Adam: No. Our plan to push victoria and ashland back together, we hit a snag.

Sally: But the text you sent made it seem like things were moving along.

Adam: It was.

Sally: And I thought ashland was more determined than ever to get back together with her.

Adam: It was all headed in that direction. And victoria just got back from her ridiculous spa trip to switzerland, so it seemed like it was just a matter of time, but something interfered with our plan.

Sally: [ Sighs ] What?

Adam: My father.

Nate: Hey. I am so sorry if I woke you. I was trying my best to keep quiet so you can get some rest.

Elena: Oh, you didn’t seem to care about that earlier.

Nate: Oh, I cared.

Elena: [ Chuckles ] Well, I set my alarm so i wouldn’t miss my shift at the clinic. Where are you headed?

Nate: Devon invited me to sit in on a meeting with the head of his digital marketing agency, and then we’re headed to the grand phoenix to make sure all the plans are in place for the launch.

Elena: [ Gasps ] Your first big event as coo.

Nate: It’s all coming together.

Elena: So, who’s all gonna be at the grand phoenix for this meeting?

Nate: Well, lily just got back from her trip, so I’m sure she’ll be there. Billy is not available, so probably just the three of us.

Elena: Good. I mean, the fewer the people, the more efficient it’ll be.

Nate: I will see you after your shift.

Elena: Yes. Tell lily I said hi.

Nate: Will do.

Imani: Looks like we both have the same thought about arriving early and getting some work done before the meeting.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] I didn’t know that you were gonna be in attendance.

Imani: Yeah, I decided to join just in case there were any legal concerns, so… I could do my work in the restaurant until we get started. I don’t want to disturb you.

Lily: Oh, no, no, no, please. I could use the company, so have a seat.

Devon: Well, thank you for being early.

Nate: I was hoping we could talk for a few minutes before the meeting so you could fill me in.

Devon: Yeah, yeah, for sure. Today, we’re gonna be talking with gwen davis, who runs the digital marketing agency that hamilton-winters has been using for years. She’s an industry leader, super, super talented, ton of great ideas, and she doesn’t believe in bigger being better, so she keeps her client list pretty tight out of principle.

Nate: I can respect that.

Devon: Yeah, me too. But I have a feeling that she’s a little uneasy about the merger taking place, ’cause when I told her about it, she sounded concerned that our working relationship would change, so…

Amanda: Hey, hi. I didn’t know you were down here.

Nate: I’m a little early for the meeting. Are you joining us?

Amanda: No, not yet. I have to run to the office to grab a few things, but I will meet you two at the grand phoenix, okay?

Devon: Okay. Mwah.

Amanda: Bye.

Nate: Bye.

Amanda: Oh, elena, hi.

Elena: Hey.

Amanda: You heading to work?

Elena: Yeah, I’m working at the clinic today, and I know you’re preparing for the big launch. Very exciting.

Amanda: Yes, it is. We actually have a meeting to finalize the details today.

Elena: Oh, yeah, nate told me about it. Hey, I have some time before i have to clock in. If you have a minute, do you want to join me for coffee?

Adam: Kyle and summer had a restraining order drawn up so locke has to stay away from the kid.

Sally: Oh. Well, that’s cold.

[ Sighs ] How does summer get away with doing things like that while people still think I’m the mean girl?

Adam: Well, being a newman has its privileges.

Sally: Well, ashland hasn’t left town, and victoria is back, so there’s still hope for our plan.

Adam: Yeah, it was a good idea. It was the perfect way to showcase victoria’s poor judgment. But we’re running out of time. I mean, locke is probably already planning his route out of genoa city as we speak.

Sally: I still have hope. But if it doesn’t work out, not to worry. We’ll just come up with something else. A better plan. We will put our brilliant brains together and come up with something even more clever to prove that you are the only one who should be running newman enterprises.

Summer: What have you done?

Diane: I saw jack and phyllis in the park earlier, and I made a comment about your possible move back to genoa city. I didn’t realize you were trying to keep that quiet.

Summer: I don’t understand what the issue is.

Kyle: Yeah, they already knew we were thinking about moving back.

Diane: Ashland was there, too. Jack made it clear that he wasn’t happy that I shared that information in front of him.

Kyle: Okay, what was ashland even doing there? Was he harassing dad for information on where to find harrison?

Diane: Oh, no, no, no, it was nothing like that. Ashland and I were just chatting, and then we ran into jack and phyllis.

Summer: Wait, I didn’t even realize that you and ashland knew each other.

Diane: Oh, well, we crossed paths a few times at the grand phoenix when we were both staying there, and then when we saw each other in the park, we stopped to chat.

Kyle: Ashland locke is bad news./ He’s in the process of splitting up with victoria because of some pretty heinous behavior on his part.

Diane: I’m aware of that now. And jack warned me about him, too. And then when I asked ashland about it, he came clean about all the awful things he’d done. But don’t worry, I’m not about to let him manipulate me. I made it perfectly clear that if he is hoping that I’ll intercede for him about harrison, he is sorely mistaken.

Phyllis: Diane is a master at pushing buttons. She hasn’t lost her touch. Unfortunately, we have. We cannot let her keep on playing mind games. We can’t do it. So you know what? Forget what I said. Forget it.

Jack: How do you expect me to do that?

Phyllis: I was just saying it so she’d shut up and back off.

Jack: We both know it was never that insignificant. This wasn’t a thoughtless remark in a heated moment.

Phyllis: No, that’s exactly what it was.

Jack: Phyllis, you arranged for her to be in the hotel to see us coming downstairs after we made love. It was calculated. It was tawdry. And frankly, pretty hurtful.

Phyllis: How could you think that of me?

Jack: Because I am tired of pretending. I’m tired of making excuses for you. Either you’re gonna tell me the truth or I don’t see any way that we’re gonna get past this.

Phyllis: What? Of course we’ll get past this.

Jack: The truth, phyllis. The truth. With golo, I’ve lost 13 inches in my waist.

Kyle: Glad you were astute enough to realize ashland intended to use you to get to harrison.

Summer: He tried to sneak in a visit today when harrison was in the park with his nanny.

Diane: [ Scoffs ] That was a foolish move. It’ll make you even more protective.

Kyle: Exactly. In fact, we just took out a restraining order so he can’t see harrison.

Summer: What, you don’t approve?

Diane: No, I wouldn’t say that. It’s not my place. Obviously, you know what’s best for your child. And after hearing all the horrible things ashland has done, I — I see your point.

Summer: So why do I feel a “but” coming?

Diane: Because I can’t help but feel a certain amount of sympathy for the guy. I mean, I know what it’s like to be separated from a child that you love, and he does seem to genuinely care for harrison.

Summer: Makes sense that you would identify with ashland, but hopefully you do realize that you can love someone and still be toxic to them, too.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Amanda: Well, welcome home.

Summer: Hi. Thanks. Hopefully we’ll be here for a while.

Amanda: Oh, that’s great. And this must be your mother.

Diane: Do you see the family resemblance?

Amanda: Yes, I do, and I also heard that you were in town. I’m friends with phyllis.

Diane: Ah. Sadly, I’m not.

Phyllis: I’m not making excuses. I’m calling out diane for the person that she is. I’m not apologizing for that, by the way. I mean, I-I-I can’t believe that you can’t see this.

Jack: This is not about diane.

Phyllis: Oh, it’s about diane! It’s all about diane!

[ Exhales sharply ] Oh, my god. I mean, seriously, have you forgotten all of her insane history of trying to get in between us?

Jack: You don’t have to remind me of all the bad things diane did.

Phyllis: I think I do. I think I do. I think you’ve forgotten. So I was staking my claim — yes, I was — and showing her that we are still solid. We are solid, and she can’t get in between us.

Elena: Thank you for waiting.

Amanda: Mm.

Elena: I’m glad you had a few minutes.

Amanda: Of course, of course. We have to catch up. I’m sure you don’t even know that we have dominic staying with us for the next few days.

Elena: No! I have to stop by and get my hug.

Amanda: You have to, you have to. He is out with the nanny right now, but he’ll be back later.

Elena: [ Chuckles ] Devon is always so happy when he has dom.

Amanda: Yeah, he is. He’s so cute with that little baby. And I have to tell you, he has thrown himself into parenting. He takes it very, very seriously. He was up until wee hours of the morning last night, just researching baby gates, okay? He’s worried that dominic’s gonna start wandering around on his own.

Elena: You know, it’s not an exact comparison, but nate is the same way. He is so excited about his new job. He’s all in, reading everything he can get his hands on.

Amanda: Well, I have to tell you, his hard work has definitely paid off. His ideas, his contributions, they’ve been great. And I was worried that, you know, he might miss the hospital environment, but he has been thriving in this new venture.

Elena: Well, I definitely miss him at the hospital. But don’t get me wrong, I love seeing his enthusiasm and hearing about everything that he’s doing and hearing about the people he’s working with, even though I know most of them, like you and devon and billy and lily and of course your sister.

Amanda: Hmm. I think I know why you worked imani into the conversation. I just want you to know that imani and nate, they have very little reason to interact. I keep her very busy. And I’ve also made it very clear to her that nate is strictly off-limits, if that’s a concern for you.

Imani: So I’ve been working on the downs contract, and the negotiations seem to have come to an impasse.

Lily: Oh, okay. I wasn’t aware of that.

Imani: But I do have some suggestions that might turn things around.

Lily: Okay.

Imani: Maybe we can offer her some perks in lieu of a salary increase. Like working a few days from home or four 10-hour work days each week.

Lily: That’s an interesting idea for sure. Have you ran it by amanda? What does she think?

Imani: Amanda tends to be a bit more conservative in her thinking, so…

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Yeah. Well, look, I mean, I respect amanda a great deal, and I trust her judgment implicitly. That’s why I wanted her on this team. -Fixed. -That’s my son.

Devon: So, gwen, I sensed from some of our earlier conversations that you have some reservations about moving forward with us.

Gwen: I have to admit, I’m concerned you might decide to consolidate your digital marketing efforts with a larger firm.

Devon: Sure, yeah, that’s completely understandable. And allow me to ease your mind when I tell you that your team does amazing work and your strategies have optimized every campaign we sent your way, so i have no intention at all of letting you guys go. And I’m still the one who’s responsible for making those decisions at the company, or at least the winters side of the company. You want to add something?

Nate: I was just gonna second what devon said.

Devon: Okay. Well, thank you. We truly hope that you decide to stay on board with us, ’cause we wouldn’t be the same without you.

Gwen: That’s kind of you to say.

Devon: It’s definitely the truth. So can we expect you to show up at our launch party?

Gwen: I wouldn’t miss it for the world.

Devon: Yeah?

Gwen: Thank you for your support, devon. It was nice to meet you, nate.

Nate: Oh, nice to meet you, too. I look forward to working with you.

Gwen: Same.

Devon: Alright. Thank you again for meeting us here.

Gwen: Thank you. See you soon.

Devon: Have a great rest of your day.

Nate: [ Sighs ]

Devon: Hey. How come you didn’t speak up when you had something to say?

Elena: I hope you don’t think that I feel threatened by imani. Because I don’T. I’m just fully aware that she’s interested in nate.

Amanda: Mm, who isn’t? You know, my sister is not subtle at all. I think it’s just part of her nature. And, yeah, she’s brash, she’s flirtatious, but I really don’t think she would ever cross that line. And even if she did, trust me, i would totally rein her in.

Elena: My only real competition is his new job. I mean, we used to spend so much time talking about our work days, and now things are so different. Honestly, I don’t really get the universe he’s navigating.

Amanda: Mm, I can relate. And just like you said, it is not the same thing at all, but nate’s new job and devon’s parenting, it does have a few things in common. You see, devon and dom, they have this amazing bond. It’s like they’re in their own little world, and I’m so not familiar with any of it.

[ Chuckles ] But I love seeing this side of devon. I love seeing him this happy.

Elena: Wow. That’s really inspiring. You know what? I think I’m gonna do the same thing. I am gonna focus on the positive, relax, [Chuckles] And share in nate’s joy. He was devastated when he found out he couldn’t perform surgery anymore, and now he wakes up so excited to go to work every day. So I guess it doesn’t matter if I know what “incentivizing” or “core competency” mean.

Amanda: No.

Elena: Because I do know that my guy has never been happier.

[ Chuckles ]

Allie: Oh, hey, you two. Where’s harrison? I didn’t see him at home.

Summer: He is on a playdate at my dad’s house.

Allie: Oh, well, apparently harrison has a more active social life than I do.

[ Both laugh ]

Summer: You two should make a playdate of your own. He’s a big fan of yours.

Kyle: Yeah, when he gets home, I’m sure he’ll talk your ears off about all the fun adventures he had today.

Diane: Allie.

Allie: Diane. Hi, I didn’t know you were still in town.

Diane: Oh, I’m sure there’s quite a few people who wished I’d cut my visit short.

Kyle: Well, she extended her stay at my request. We’ve spent so much time apart, I thought we could use the opportunity to get to know each other better.

Summer: Kyle and I are headed back to the house. Do you need a lift?

Diane: No, don’t go. Please stay. I was really hoping we could catch up.

Allie: Um, yeah, yeah, okay. I’ll see you guys back at the house.

Phyllis: Obviously I’m digging myself in a hole here.

Jack: Then stop.

Phyllis: I mean, I don’t want to leave here with you thinking these things about me. It’s horrible. Jack, this is real. We are real. When I made love to you, that was real. I like who I am around you, whether, you know, we’re laughing or…eating doughnuts under the clouds.

Jack: You still haven’t answered my questions. Why did you change your mind about us being together?

Phyllis: Okay, so you want to know why I threw caution to the wind and went for you so hard. That’s what you want to know. Okay, well, you better pull up a chair, ’cause I have a lot of things to say.

Jack: Sounds like a lot of rationalizing.

Phyllis: No, it’s not rationalizing. You listen to me. I mean, I — I love being around you. And you’re special and — and i like what we have, and…I like that you accept me and you trust me for the most part.

[ Chuckles ] And you still like me when I’m irrational and I fly off the handle, which is a lot of times.

Jack: Phyllis, you can talk all day, trying to convince me there’s no truth to the words you hurled at diane. I heard them all. We cannot get around the fact that you have held me at a distance for months now. And suddenly, you changed your mind. Something changed that.

Phyllis: But, see, who cares what it was or when, why, how? It doesn’t matter. Why does that possibly matter? I want you. I do. And diane coming into town, yeah, I mean, that did help. It made me see what was in front of me, because I’ve been running away from it for so long. We’re happy, right? I’m the happiest I’ve been in a really long time. Aren’t you happy?

Jack: You know how happy I’ve been.

Phyllis: Okay. Then that’s all that matters. That we’re happy. We’ve come so far. Please don’t tell me you want to give up on us now. It’s still the eat fresh refresh,

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Allie: Thanks for paying for coffee. You really didn’t need to do that.

Diane: Oh, after everything that’s happened, we both know i owe you more than a cup of coffee. I — I feel I owe you an apology, too. I blind-sided you. Without any preparation or warning, you found out you had an entire extended family. It — it wasn’t a very nice thing to do. And I’m sorry.

Allie: It’s okay. Actually — actually, no, it’s not okay. It was extremely self-serving of you. I made my own decision to come to genoa city and get to know my family, and so far, it’s — it’s been pretty good.

Diane: [ Chuckles ] Well, I’m glad to hear that.

Allie: Thanks.

Diane: And I’m not at all surprised. The abbotts are warm and loving. And I wouldn’t have introduced you to your grandfather if i hadn’t known that he’d be thrilled to learn of your existence and to welcome you with open arms.

Allie: Yeah, but that does not change the deceptive way you went about it.

Diane: You’re right. I should’ve handled it differently. I could’ve explained the situation to you and given you a choice, and the only reason i didn’t is —

Allie: Is because you wanted to get something out of it. You wanted to use me to your advantage.

Diane: You’re right. I did.

Adam: I admire your hopeful enthusiasm.

Sally: Oh, is that what i have?

Adam: Mm-hmm. In abundance. But we are facing a real setback. If ashland’s not around to occupy victoria’s time, I cannot envision my father deciding to put me in charge.

Sally: Yeah, but how can he not see that you’re the right person for the job? I mean, you have all the leadership qualities that he wants. You have innovative ideas and sometimes — forgive me for saying this — but you can be a little nasty.

Adam: [ Clears throat ]

Sally: You embody all the essential qualities of a ceo.

Adam: Uh, well, thank you.

Sally: You’re welcome.

Adam: But you are still fairly new around here. You haven’t seen how many times my father has dangled the ceo position in front of me, only to rip it away at the last second. I mean, he’s like a bull fighter waving that thing in front of me.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Okay. Well, the next time you have a shot at the ceo title, you are gonna succeed because you have something now that you’ve never had before.

Adam: Oh, yeah, what’s that?

Sally: Me.

Adam: Well, I cannot argue with that.

Sally: You have been fighting this fight all on your own. But now you have me on your team, and we are unbeatable.

Adam: Yes, we are.

Sally: So we just have to come up with a spectacular plan “b” to get you in the big office in the big chair, just like you deserve. But you know the best part? We have time. We’re not desperate. I mean, look around, you are running newman media and succeeding. And I absolutely love working with you. So we should just appreciate what we have while keeping our eyes on the prize. And be patient. And go slow.

Nate: I was about to jump in and make some suggestions about growing the business relationship in light of the merger, but I thought better of it.

Devon: How come?

Nate: The timing didn’t seem right. Gwen was already saying she was unnerved by all the changes. Last thing she needed was a flood of new ideas coming from someone she had just met. Probably not too reassuring while you’re trying to convince her that things weren’t gonna be all that different.

Devon: That makes a lot of sense. Very smart of you. I appreciate it. But I want you to know that I do value your opinion, and when you have thoughts, I want to hear them.

Nate: Doesn’t mean you won’t shoot them down, though, right?

Devon: No, it doesn’t, ’cause it doesn’t mean they’re gonna be good. But I do promise that I’ll always listen to you.

Nate: Cool. Well, guess we’d better head over to the meeting at the grand phoenix.

Devon: Yeah, let’s do it.

Lily: Who is in charge of the swag bags for the launch?

Imani: I’m pretty sure nate volunteered, which means they’ll get done and get done right.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] I know, he’s really hit the ground running, right? He’s been such a great addition to the team.

Imani: Don’t expect me to be objective as far as nate hastings goes. I’ve been a fan since he was dr. Askmdnow.

Lily: Oh, do you know it was my idea to have him be the spokesperson? I had to beg him to take the job.

[ Chuckles ]

Imani: Well, you couldn’t have made a better choice. There’s just something about nate that makes you feel like you can trust him with your life.

Phyllis: I mean, I think what we have is worth fighting for.

Jack: Who do you think we’re fighting? Diane? Are we supposed to stay together for the very reason we apparently got together — to spite her?

Phyllis: That’s not my point at all.

Summer: Hi.

Phyllis: Hey.

Jack: Hey. Where’s harrison?

Kyle: He’s on a playdate with christian.

Phyllis: Oh, with christian. That’s sweet.

Summer: What’s going on here? Did we interrupt something?

Phyllis: No. I have to get back to the hotel. Unless maybe —

Jack: Don’t let me keep you.

Phyllis: Alright.

Kyle: Sorry, dad. I get the feeling our timing wasn’t exactly the best.

Jack: It’s nothing for you to worry about. Phyllis and I said everything that needs to be said.

Summer: That doesn’t sound good. I’m gonna go catch up with my mom. Jack, I’ll see you later.

Jack: So did you get to the office today?

Kyle: Not yet. I was gonna go in later this afternoon.

Jack: Good. How’s the rest of your day going?

Kyle: Better than yours, i think. Want to tell me what’s going on? From the very first touch.

Kyle: Are you going to tell me what happened?

Jack: Gee, what makes you think something happened?

Kyle: It’s pretty obvious something’s going on between you and phyllis.

Jack: You know what? Don’t worry about it. Phyllis and I will work our way through it.

Kyle: I’m sure you can. But I’m happy to lend an ear if you want. God knows you’ve been a patient listener these past few weeks while I struggled with how to handle this situation with my mother.

Jack: Actually, that reminds me of something I wanted to tell you.

Kyle: If it’s about my mother and ashland making each other’s acquaintance, I already heard. Summer and I ran into her at the crimson lights. She told me that you warned her about keeping her distance from ashland.

Jack: I made it as clear to her as possible that man is poison.

Kyle: Dealing with him is the last thing she needs while she’s trying to put her life back together.

Jack: Uh-huh.

Kyle: Dad, I can tell you’re still thinking about phyllis. Sure you don’t want to talk about it?

Jack: Remember the other day I told you that I wasn’t at all confident things would go smoothly for the two of us? That was ’cause phyllis is so unpredictable, and actually more accurately, she’s so completely predictable.

[ Cellphone rings ] This is andrew in r&D. I better take this.

Kyle: Go ahead.

Jack: Hey, andrew. I got the brief that you sent me. Yeah, those are some pretty clever ideas.

Diane: It seems like you had a chance to get to know my son.

Allie: Yeah, yeah, kyle’s great. And so is summer. They make a lovely couple.

Diane: Yes, they do.

[ Chuckles ] It’s so wonderful to see kyle in a healthy, stable, loving relationship. He didn’t have the benefit of being raised in that environment. As hard as I tried, I just couldn’t provide him with that example. And neither could jack, despite all his wonderful qualities. But I’m just so relieved that, against all odds, kyle found that magic.

Allie: Yes, they seem quite happy.

Diane: Yeah, and harrison.

[ Chuckles ] I’ve only met him a few times, but, oh, he’s adorable. He doesn’t know I’m his grandmother yet, but hopefully soon, and we decided that he’s going to call me deedee.

Allie: Wow. Well, I guess everything seemed to have worked out quite well for you. I hope it was worth whatever it took for you to become part of their lives.

Diane: [ Scoffs ] Okay, alliE. I — I do feel a sense of responsibility towards you.

Allie: You do?

Diane: Yes. And that’s why I wanted to check in and see how you’re doing and make sure you have everything you need. And the abbotts are kind and generous, but there is a lot going on in that house. And I don’t know, it might be easy to feel overlooked.

Allie: Listen, diane, I don’t mean to be unkind here, but if i needed something, I’d be more likely to go ask the abbotts than you.

Diane: Would you? Really? Because you don’t strike me as the kind of person who’d want to call attention to yourself.

Devon: So how was your visit with jill?

Lily: It was good, really good. Yeah. She’s happy with the merger and loves the roll-out marketing plan, and I guess the board loves it, too.

Devon: That’s great. That’s great. It’s full steam ahead for us then.

Lily: Yeah. And then billy brought me up to speed on the compromise that you reached. So I guess we’ll just figure out which initiatives to launch first and how to fit their announcement into our agenda.

Nate: We could do it after lily and devon’s welcome speech, let everyone know what makes the new company special.

Imani: That’s a good idea.

Devon: I don’t know if it is. Do we not want to build up to it?

Nate: Well, we can fit it in after the introductions of our management team.

Imani: That’s brilliant, and then they can each introduce the platform.

Lily: Well, I mean, it could work, but I wonder, do we save it for a bigger finale moment?

Nate: Sure, then we can end with the video and the big reveal of our new logo.

Imani: Perfect, because —

Amanda: Imani, can you help me with this text? I just need to draft a response. Just over here.

Imani: What is it?

Amanda: I already told you before. Don’t let me tell you again. Ease up on nate. He has a live-in girlfriend that he loves very much.

Imani: So you’ve said.

Amanda: You have already made your interest known repeatedly, and it stopped being cute a long time ago.

Imani: No one asked your opinion.

[ Knock on door ]

Phyllis: Jack.

Summer: You were hoping it was jack, weren’t you?

Phyllis: I was not hoping it was jack. I was not. We spent most of the day together, and I came back here. I have a lot of work.

Summer: Really, then what are you doing in your suite? Mom, the tension between you and jack was more than obvious, so spill. What’s the story?

Imani: You know what? I’ve had enough of your advice. We’re all adults here. We get to make our own choices.

Amanda: Well, stop making such bad ones.

Imani: You may be my boss and my sister, but you are not my conscience, so back off.

Amanda: Imani, you —

Lily: So we need an update on the logo.

Nate: The final version should be done later today, then we’ll add it to our marketing pieces.

Imani: Well, I’m happy to double check the clearance on all the video footage if you’d like. Just let me know if there’s anything you need.

Allie: [ Sighs ] Please don’t take this the wrong way, but I don’t completely trust you. And not that I’m angry or upset with how things turned out, but I have been warned about you. And although you were wonderfully nice to me in la, you were also lying.

Diane: I get it. It makes perfect sense to keep your guard up around someone you just met who made your acquaintance under false pretenses. But it can’t hurt to have new friends, right? And I am hoping that someday down the road, you might accept me as one of them.

Phyllis: You’re lovely to check on me. Nothing’s going on, you know? It — it’s — it’ll work itself out.

Summer: I am not buying this phony positivity. I can see that you are upset.

Phyllis: Oh, come on. I’m emotional, summer. You know that about me. Don’t worry about it. It — it’s nothing, really.

Summer: You know, mom, we’re a lot alike. This is reminding me of when i was dealing with all of sally’s scheming. I was desperately trying to keep all of my anxiety inside.

Phyllis: That’s not the same.

Summer: Okay, well, if it’s no big deal, then you should have no problem telling me what’s going on.

Phyllis: Summer! Summer! I said it’s not a big deal. Drop it. Really.

Summer: [ Sighs ] No. Not until you tell me what is going on.

Phyllis: I don’t want to get into this with you.

Summer: Why?

Phyllis: Summer, something is very wrong. I screwed up.

Young & The Restless Update

Y&R logo

Recap written by Christine

Elena and Nate were home. She was on her way to a shift at the clinic, and he was going to a meeting with Devon and Lily. Billy wasn’t available, so Nate thought it’d be just the three of them. Nate went across the hall to talk to Devon before the meeting. Devon said they were going to be talking to Gwen Davis, who ran the marketing agency Hamilton Winters had been using for years. Devon had a feeling Gwen was a little uneasy about the merger. Amanda came downstairs and said hello before she headed to the office. She ran into Elena in the hallway, who asked if they could meet for coffee.

Devon and Nate met with Gwen. She shared her concern that Hamilton Winters was going to go with a larger firm. Devon assured Gwen that they wanted to remain with her team, and he was still the one responsible for making those decisions for the company, at least the Winters side. Devon sensed that Nate wanted to add something. Nate just seconded what Devon said. They said they’d see Gwen at the launch party, and she left. Devon asked why Nate didn’t speak up at the meeting. Nate had wanted to say something about growing the business relationship, in light of the merger, but he decided the timing wasn’t right. He said Gwen was already nervous about all the changes, so the last thing she needed was a flood of new ideas coming from someone she just met. Devon thought that was smart of Nate. He assured Nate that he always wanted to hear his ideas though. Nate knew Devon would still feel free to shoot them down, too. They got ready to go to the meeting at The Grand Phoenix.

Kyle and Summer were at Crimson Lights. They’d tucked Harrison away at Nick and Christian’s house while they waited for Ashland to be served with the restraining order. Diane showed up and confessed that she made a comment to Jack and Phyllis about Kyle and Summer possibly moving back to Genoa City. She didn’t realize it was being kept quiet. She explained that Ashland was there too, and Jack had made it clear that he wasn’t happy Diane shared that information in front of him. Kyle asked what Ashland was even doing there – was he harassing Jack about Harrison? Diane said she and Ashland were just chatting when they ran into Jack and Phyllis. Summer didn’t realize they knew each other. Diane said she and Ashland crossed paths when they were both staying at the Grand Phoenix. Kyle warned his mom that Ashland was bad news. She already knew – Jack gave her the same warning, and when she asked Ashland about it, he came clean. She said she made it clear to Ashland that she wouldn’t intercede for him about Harrison.

Kyle was glad Diane was astute enough to realize Ashland intended to use her to get to Harrison. Summer said Ashland tried to sneak in a visit today while Harrison was at the park with his nanny. Kyle told Diane about the restraining order, and Summer sensed she didn’t approve. Diane said it wasn’t her place – it was obvious that they knew what was best for their child, and she understood, considering all the things Ashland had done. However, Diane couldn’t help but be sympathetic, because she knew what it was like to be separated from a child you love, and she thought Ashland loved Harrison. Summer hoped Diane knew you could love someone and still be toxic to them. Amanda came up and said hi to Summer and Kyle. She guessed Diane was Kyle’s mother. Diane assumed Amanda saw the resemblance. Amanda did, but she mentioned that she heard Diane was in town, because she was friends with Phyllis. Diane said, sadly she was not.

After Amanda and Diane left the table, Allie came up and asked where Harrison was. Summer said he was having a play date. Allie said apparently he had a more active social life than she did. Summer mentioned that Harrison liked Allie a lot. Allie was surprised when Diane returned. Summer offered Allie a ride back to the house, but Diane asked Allie to stay and catch up. Summer was caught off guard when Allie accepted Diane’s invite. After Summer and Kyle left, Diane and Allie had coffee. Diane apologized for blindsiding Allie with the news that she had an entire extended family. At first Allie said it was okay, then she changed her mind and said it was extremely self-serving of Diane. Allie made her own decision to come here and get to know her family, and so far it had been pretty good. Diane said she wouldn’t have introduced Allie to her grandfather if she didn’t know he’d be thrilled to meet her and welcome her with open arms. Allie said that didn’t change the deception. Allie said that Diane used her. Diane admitted that was true.

Diane had noticed that Allie had gotten to know Kyle. Allie thought Kyle and Summer were a lovely couple. Diane agreed. She was glad Kyle was in a stable, healthy and loving relationship. She’d tried to raise Kyle in that environment, but she wasn’t able to, and neither could Jack, despite his wonderful qualities. She was relieved that, against all odds, Kyle found that magic. Diane talked about Harrison, who was adorable. Allie said things seemed to have worked out well for Diane, and she hoped it was worth it. Diane said she felt a sense of responsibility toward Allie, and that was why she wanted to check in. Diane said the Abbotts were kind and generous, but there was a lot going on in that house, and it might be easy to feel overlooked. Allie didn’t mean to be unkind, but if she needed something, she’d be more likely to ask the Abbotts than Diane. Diane wondered if that was true, because Allie didn’t strike her as the type to call attention to herself. Allie wasn’t trying to be offensive, but she didn’t completely trust Diane. Allie was happy with the way things worked out, but she’d been warned about Diane. Diane understood that, but she said it couldn’t hurt to have a new friend, and she hoped Allie would see her as a friend one day.

Amanda continued on to the patio where she met with Elena. Amanda mentioned that they had Dom for a few days, and Elena said she’d come see the baby and get her hugs in. Amanda said Devon was so cute with the baby, and he threw himself into parenting and took it seriously. Elena knew it wasn’t the same, but Nate was throwing himself into his new job too, and he was so excited about it. Amanda said Nate’s ideas and contributions had been great, and he’d been thriving. Elena missed him at the hospital, but she enjoyed seeing his enthusiasm about his job and the people he was working with. Elena listed everyone Nate worked with, including Imani. Amanda thought she knew why Elena worked Imani into the conversation. Amanda assured Elena that Nate and Imani had little reason to interact at work, and Amanda kept Imani busy. Amanda made it clear to Imani that Nate was off limits.

Elena wasn’t threatened by Imani; she was just aware that Imani was interested in Nate. Amanda said everyone knew, since Imani wasn’t hiding it. While Amanda felt that her sister was brash and flirtatious, she didn’t think Imani would cross the line. Elena knew that her only competition for Nate was his job. They used to spend so much time talking about work, and she didn’t get the new universe he was navigating. Amanda said it wasn’t the same, but she compared it to Devon’s parenting. Devon and Dom were in their own little world, and Amanda wasn’t familiar with it, but she loved seeing him so happy. Elena found that inspiring. She thought she’d do the same thing – focus on the positive, relax, and share in Nate’s joy. Nate had been devastated when he couldn’t perform surgery anymore, but now he woke up every day happy about going to work. She guessed it didn’t matter what “incentivising” or “core competency” meant. She knew her guy had never been happier.

Imani showed up to the Grand Phoenix for the meeting. Lily didn’t realize Imani would be attending. Imani figured she’d come in case there were any legal concerns. Imani had an idea about appeasing an unhappy employee, and she ran it by Lily. Lily thought it was interesting, and she wondered what Amanda thought. Imani said Amanda tended to be more conservative in her thinking. Lily respected Amanda and trusted her judgment implicitly. Lily and Imani talked business, and Imani seized the opportunity to praise the job Nate was doing. Lily said he’d been a great addition to the team. Imani said she’d trusted Nate since he was Mr. AskMDNow. Amanda arrived and heard Imani say that there was something about Nate that made you feel like you could trust him with your life.

Lily, Devon, Amanda, Nate and Imani held their meeting. Lily’s visit with Jill went well. Jill and the board loved the roll out and marketing plan for the merger. Lily said Billy brought her up to speed on the compromise Devon and Nate reached. Lily said they had to figure out which initiatives to launch first and when, during the party, to announce them. Nate suggested they do it after the welcoming speech. Imani thought that was a good idea. Amanda looked irritated. Devon thought maybe they should build up to it instead. Every time Nate made a remark, Imani announced that it was brilliant.

Amanda pulled Imani aside and told her to ease up on Nate, because he had a live in girlfriend that he loved. Amanda told Imani that her act stopped being cute a long time ago. Imani wasn’t interested in hearing Amanda’s opinion. She stated that they were all adults who got to make their own choices. Amanda told Imani to stop making such bad choices. Imani said Amanda was her boss and her sister, not her conscience. Imani walked off and joined the meeting, leaving Amanda fuming.

Phyllis went to Jack’s place. He didn’t want to talk right now, but she insisted on explaining what he’d just heard her say to Diane. He thought she’d spelled it out very clearly when she said she kicked their relationship in high gear to stick it to Diane. He said he specifically asked her if she was flaunting their relationship in front of Diane because Diane was needling her, and she’d denied it, and he assumed she was here to deny it again. He said he should’ve listened to that voice in his head. She said the voice in his head was Diane’s. Phyllis said Diane was doing the same thing to her – trying to manipulate her. She implored him not to let Diane have that power over him.

Phyllis said that Diane hadn’t lost her touch, but Phyllis and Jack had. She told him to forget what she’d said earlier. He couldn’t do that. She claimed that she only said that to get Diane to back off. Jack told Phyllis they both knew this wasn’t some thoughtless comment she’d made. When she continued to maintain her story, he yelled that she’d arranged for Diane to be at the hotel and see them coming downstairs after they’d made love. “It was calculated. It was tawdry, and frankly pretty hurtful,” he said. He was tired of pretending and making excuses for her. He told her that she was going to tell the truth, or he didn’t think they would get past this.

Phyllis said she wasn’t making excuses, she was calling out Diane for the person that she was. She was unapologetic about that. She couldn’t believe he couldn’t see this. He said this wasn’t about Diane. “It’s all about Diane!,” Phyllis roared. She asked if he’d forgotten all Diane’s insane history of trying to get between them. He said he didn’t need to be reminded, but she thought he did. She said she was staking her claim and letting Diane know Phyllis and Jack were still solid. Jack told Phyllis that she’d accomplished exactly the opposite. “You convinced her and anyone in earshot in a hotel lobby that our relationship was nothing more than a vengeful little game,” he contended. She denied doing that, and she couldn’t believe he was saying these things about her. She said that they’d gotten so close, and they’d come so far, and it took so long. That was his point too. He said things took so long that he’d actually given up hope that it would ever happen, and he’d been okay with that because he cherished their friendship. He said she changed her mind when Diane came to town. She said it wasn’t like that, and she couldn’t believe he’d think that of her. He asked what he was supposed to think when he heard her plainly state that she’d accelerated things with him to shove it in Diane’s face.

Phyllis didn’t want to leave the house with Jack thinking these horrible things about her. She said they were real, and when she made love to him that was real. She liked who she was with him. He asked why she changed her mind about them being together. She said she loved being around him, and she liked that he accepted and trusted her for the most part, and that he still liked her when she was irrational. Jack felt that there was nothing Phyllis could say to get around the fact that she held him at arm’s length for months until she suddenly changed her mind. She didn’t see why that mattered. She said she wanted him. “Diane coming into town, yeah, I mean that did help. It made me see what was in front of me, because I’ve been running away from it for so long,” she said. She was happy – the happiest she’d been in a really long time. She asked if he was happy. “You know how happy I’ve been,” he replied. She thought that was all that mattered. She hoped he didn’t want to give up on what they had now.

Phyllis said what they had was worth fighting for. “Who do you think we’re fighting? Diane? Are we supposed to stay together for the same reason we apparently got together? To spite her?,” Jack asked. Phyllis said that wasn’t her point. Summer and Kyle came in and sensed they were interrupting. Phyllis said they weren’t. She said she had to get back to the hotel unless… She looked at Jack. “Don’t let me keep you,” he said. She left. Kyle apologized for interrupting, but Jack said that he and Phyllis said everything that needed to be said. Summer went to talk to her mom. Kyle asked Jack what was going on. Jack said he and Phyllis would work through it.

Jack had something to tell Kyle about Diane. Kyle said that if this was about Diane and Ashland being acquainted, he heard. Kyle offered a listening ear about Phyllis. Jack noted that he told Kyle he wasn’t sure things would go smoothly between him and Phyllis since she was so unpredictable. He corrected himself and said Phyllis was very predictable. then a business call came in, so he took it.

Phyllis heard a knock on her door. She said to herself that it was Jack, but she answered it to see Summer. Phyllis claimed she had a lot of work to do, but Summer didn’t believe her since she was holed up in her suite. Summer had seen the tension between Phyllis and Jack. Phyllis said she was fine. Summer thought she and Phyllis were a lot alike. This situation reminded Summer of when she’d been dealing with Sally’s schemes, and she’d desperately tried to keep her anxiety inside. Phyllis said it wasn’t the same. Summer kept prodding for details. Phyllis didn’t want to get into this, but she eventually admitted that she’d screwed up.

A triumphant Sally rushed into Adam’s office and announced she closed the deal with Hartwell. He was subdued, and she asked what was wrong. He said the plan to reunite Ashland and Victoria hit a snag. According to Adam, Victoria just got back from that ridiculous spa trip. However, Victor had interfered with Sally and Adam’s plan. Adam said Kyle and Summer had a restraining order drawn up so Locke had to stay away from the kid. Sally wondered how Summer got away with doing things like that while Sally was the one with the reputation for being mean. Adam said it was Newman privilege. Sally said Ashland hadn’t left town and Victoria was back, so there was still hope for their idea, and if the plan didn’t work out, they’d just come up with a better one.

Adam admired Sally’s enthusiasm, but they were facing a setback. If Ashland wasn’t around to occupy Victoria, Adam couldn’t see his dad putting him in charge. Sally wondered why Victor didn’t see that Adam was the right one for the job. She said he had innovative ideas, and forgive her for saying this, but sometimes he could be a little nasty. She said he embodied all the essential qualities of CEO. He said thanks, but he told her she hadn’t seen all the times Victor dangled the CEO job in front of him then ripped it away at the last second. She said the next time he had a shot at the CEO title, he’d succeed because he had her. She noted that he wasn’t fighting alone anymore, and together, they were unbeatable. She said they had time, and they weren’t desperate – he was running Newman Media and succeeding, and she loved working with him. She said they should appreciate what they had and keep their eye on the prize. They kissed.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Summer: He’s here.

Kyle: I’m dreading this.

Summer: But it needs to be done.

Kyle: You’re right.

Summer: Hi, grandpa.

Victor: Hello, you two.

Summer: Come on in.

Victor: Thank you. It’s not often that I’m invited to what used to be enemy territory.

Summer: There’s a lot less bad blood between the families than there used to be.

Victor: Yeah, well, I think that has a lot to do with the two of you.

Summer: I like to think so.

Victor: So, is my grandson around?

Summer: I love hearing you call him that.

Kyle: Harrison is on the way to the park with his nanny.

Victor: Ah.

Summer: We didn’t want him to overhear any of this grown-up talk.

Victor: Uh-huh. Grown-up talk — does that mean we’re gonna have a conversation about ashland locke?

Kyle: That’s right. And we’ve come to a decision about how to handle him.

Ashland: Thanks.

Adam: Well, look who it is. Genoa city’s least favorite glutton for punishment.

Jack: I think we ought to go on a trip.

Phyllis: What’d you have in mind?

Jack: I don’t know. What do you feel like doing? Sitting on a beach? Climbing a mountain? Shopping all day?

Phyllis: All three sound great.

Jack: That’s my red. Give her three viable options, she’ll choose all three.

Phyllis: Have you noticed that I can really laugh at myself lately?

Jack: I have noticed that.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Jack: I also noticed you’ve been laughing a lot today.

Phyllis: I know. I have. You know why?

Jack: Why?

Phyllis: Because I’m not distracted by that woman who shall remain nameless. And it is a good day. It’s a very good day because, you know, all distractions are gone and I’m not thinking of that woman.

Jack: So, where do we go on this trip? Iceland? Tokyo? Madrid?

Phyllis: Wow, those are great suggestions.

Diane: [ Laughs ] Look at you two! Like a couple of teenagers. Or was all that sloppy kissing for my benefit?

Jack: What are you talking about?

Diane: Oh, please. As soon as I walked in, you were all over each other. It looked staged.

Jack: Don’t be ridiculous. We didn’t even know you were here.

Diane: Oh, I think phyllis looked right at me.

Phyllis: Oh, well, uh, sorry to say this, but you’re not as eye-catching as you seem to think you are.

Diane: [ Chuckles ] I feel I should get some credit for rekindling your hot romance. I mean, you clearly weren’t together in L.A., But you sure are now. As a matter of fact, I think I’ve brought the spirit of love back to town. Oh, stouffer’s french bread pizza?!

Kyle: We’ve given your suggestion about ashland a lot of thought, and we’ve come to a decision.

Summer: We’ve realized if we were headed right back to milan this wouldn’t be such an urgent situation.

Kyle: But we’re planning on staying in genoa city longer than we thought…

Victor: Yes.

Kyle: …Possibly moving back.

Victor: Whoa. Well, summer hinted at that, and everyone would love for you to come back here, you know. But you should consider the fact that if you stay, then ashland locke would have greater proximity to harrisoN. And I don’t think that’s a good idea.

Kyle: I agree. That’s why, although I’ve got a couple concerns, we’ve decided to protect our son and get a restraining order.

Victor: Good. That way, ashland locke has no one here to relate to anymore. That means he will finally get out of town.

Kyle: I’m not making this decision out of revenge.

Victor: I understand.

Summer: Ashland leaving town is just a fringe benefit.

Victor: I already had michael baldwin draw up the papers.

Summer: Very efficient.

Victor: He’s filing a restraining order against ashland locke, and he will send it in as soon as I tell him to. And then all we need is the judge’s signature, and you have all that done before dinner.

Kyle: Let’s slow down. Before we make a move against ashland, we need to prepare harrison for what’s about to happen.

Ashland: [ Sighs heavily ]

Adam: [ Chuckles ] How do you figure that?

Ashland: Well, before i slipped up, you were the town pariah. I get the sense that you miss all those people hating you. Because if they don’t hate you, then they’re probably not actually paying attention to you at all.

Adam: Well, touché. But I did get back on the radar of all the people that matter to me when I maneuvered you out of the family business.

Ashland: Really? So, what exactly have the newmans done for you to say thank you? Anything at all?

Adam: That is none of your concern.

Ashland: Well, I’ve been out of the loop for a while, but it seems to me you’re in exactly the same position you were before you came up with your brilliant scheme to give me half a billion dollars.

Adam: Whereas you lost your company and your wife. So knowing that you’re suffering is all the reward that I need. And, hey, I would drink to your health, but I know it’s a sensitive subject. But seriously, all joking aside, why are you still here? I mean, I always thought it was my best revenge to stick around and make all the people face me.

Ashland: Revenge isn’t what’s keeping me here.

Adam: Oh. Please don’t tell me you’re sticking around because of love. Ugh, that is so gross. Besides, you’re a little late.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] What do you mean?

Adam: Haven’t you heard? Victoria left town. She abandoned her duties at newman and she went to some spa in the swiss alps to, uh, clear her head and nurse her pathetic broken heart.

Ashland: I’m sure victoria has not abandoned anything. She’s still in charge. She always will be. So don’t get any ideas, hmm?

Jack: So, you’ve come to think of yourself as some kind of cupid?

Diane: Well, I’m just pointing out that I show up in town and everyone starts falling in love, like you two. The timing is uncanny.

Jack: You know, it’s funny. I think when most people in this town think of you, the first word that comes to mind isn’t “love.”

Phyllis: That’s true, diane. I have a couple choice words that I could associate with you.

[ Cellphone vibrating ]

Jack: I got to take this. Um, you want to go back to the hotel?

Phyllis: No. It’s such a great day. I’ll wait for you.

Jack: Play nice.

Phyllis: [ Laughs ]

Jack: Hello?

Diane: He knows you so well. It’s so cute.

Phyllis: I want to get something straight with you right now. When it comes to pain medicine,

Adam: You say victoria didn’t abandon the company, but yet where is she?

Ashland: Look, adam, I see what you’re trying to do here, okay? It’s so pedestrian, it’s laughable. It’s pathetic, actually. You’re trying to convince me that victoria is no longer a reason for me to stay here in genoa city. If she’s not here, why would i stick around, right?

Adam: [ Laughs ] You…caught me.

Ashland: Yeah, but she’s gonna come back soon, I would imagine. She’s not gonna stay away forever. She’s probably just working remotely right now. And newman, by the way, has thrived under her leadership.

Adam: Well, of course. She is a business genius.

Ashland: She is. This company has a strong foundation. It’s in a good position to move forward in the future, except, of course — I’m sorry — for the media division.

Adam: Newman media?

Ashland: Yeah.

Adam: Oh, wait a second. That’s my division. Why am I not surprised that you would think that’s the weak link?

Ashland: Oh, I’m sorry. I just assumed you knew that chancellor and hamilton-winters are merging, and they’re all set to just wipe newman media off the face of the earth, I mean, especially ’cause you’re making these terrible decisions, like appointing your girlfriend coo. Oh, you got your hands full with that one, by the way.

Adam: You do her a disservice by calling her my girlfriend. She’s much more than that.

Ashland: Mm.

Adam: She’s a force of nature, and the world will soon discover that.

Ashland: [ Laughs ] Well, you know what else is a force of nature? An erupting volcano. I wouldn’t appoint one coo.

Adam: That is a good one. I’ve always found you entertaining, locke.

Ashland: Mm.

Adam: Like when you pretended to cough up a lung to get my sister to like you. That was quite a spectacle. You know, in the beginning, i was really rooting for you and victoria. I thought it made sense. You both are workaholics. And, you know, given her intense daddy issues, it made sense why she would be drawn to a megalomaniac older man with a checkered past.

Ashland: Mm, says the man who spent his entire adult life alternating between trying to lash out at his father and trying to win his father’s approval.

Adam: Well, of course i didn’t realize that your relationship with my sister was based on a lie. And I will grudgingly give you credit to committing to the bit. Your performance was quite impressive. You know, maybe now, since your business career has hit the skids, you could head out to hollywood and you could try to make it as an actor.

Ashland: Oh, god, no. No, I don’t think so. Look, it’s obvious you’re just trying everything you can to get me to leave town. Give up, okay? I’m not going anywhere.

Adam: I’m just trying to spare you the humiliation of having victoria reject you again.

Ashland: No, you see, I’m beginning to wonder if you’re trying to get me to leave genoa city before victoria gets back because you’re afraid the opposite might happen, that she might actually take me back.

Adam: No. No. I think you had a chance to work things out a few weeks ago, but, uh, now she’s fled the country. You should take that as a hint. You are never going to get her to forgive you.

Ashland: Watch me.

Kyle: I don’t want to rush into this. I worry about how the restraining order will affect harrison.

Summer: Of course. We’ll be sensitive to his feelings, just like we discussed.

Kyle: But completely removing ashland from his life — I don’t know how he’ll react. He still has an attachment to ashland. He’s been asking about him. And the little boy — he’s had so much upheaval in his young life. Look, I don’t want to rush into this. It will cause him great distress ripping away another member of his family.

Victor: Kyle, I understand, okay? This is a tough balancing act. But you must remember that ashland locke brought this all onto himself. He’s desperate. He’s lashing out. I don’t want him to use harrison as a pawn.

Kyle: You think that’s a real possibility?

Victor: Yeah, I do.

Summer: I agree. We know what ashland is capable of now, such hideous and hurtful lies.

Victor: We can come up with some story explaining why ashland locke had to leave town suddenly.

Summer: I think it’s for the best, kyle. Remember how harrison was when we first moved to milan? He missed his mom and his father, but we comforted him. He knew that he was loved, and he came out of it.

Kyle: I see the logic. It’s just going to be hard.

Summer: Ashland has already discussed bringing in lawyers. We should probably beat him to the punch.

Victor: We should indeed.

Kyle: We handle this with great care to minimize harrison’s upset. There’s no point in putting it off so we can spare his pain in the future. There’s no reason to put off the inevitable, so let’s just tell michael to move forward with the restraining order.

Victor: Good. I agree with you. Now… once your mother finds out that the two of you are not moving back to milan, she’s gonna cause problems. I can have michael baldwin drop some papers, you know, issue the same restraining order against her.

Diane: You seem a little worked up, phyllis. Are you okay?

Phyllis: No. No, I am not okay. You seem to think that you and jack and kyle and harrison are a package deal. I think you’ve forgotten something.

Diane: What’s that?

Phyllis: Jack hates you.

Diane: Oh, I think you’re overstating it.

Phyllis: No. Jack hates you. With the great white heat of a thousand suns, he hates you. He puts up a front when kyle is around, but when kyle’s gone, wow. It’s shocking to me how much jack hates you.

Diane: Well, I think it’s flattering how intense jack’s feelings are for me. You know what that means. We have such history, some bad, but most of it good.

Jack: Everything okay here?

Phyllis: It’s great. Yeah, it’s really good. Hey, I have an idea.

Jack: Oh? What’s that?

Phyllis: Yeah. Well, I mean, we had such a great celebration outside with our picnic. Um, let’s bring our celebration indoors. How about that?

Jack: Uh-huh.

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ]

[ Door closes ] Motrin works fast to stop pain where it starts.

[ Cellphone pings ]

Diane: [ Sighs ] Damn it, phyllis.

Jack: Um, this is what you had in mind?

Phyllis: Yes, this is what i had in mind. I’ve been thinking about this all day.

Jack: Yeah?

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. Oh, I’m so positive. I fe so positive.

Jack: Yeah, so am I.

Phyllis: Mmm. Good.

[ Sighs ] And you know what? I trace back my positivity to when we made love. That’s why I feel like this. We took it slow. We took it slow, but now… this is where we are. And we deserve this, jack.

Jack: Wait, wait, no. Tell me what that —

Phyllis: We deserve this.

Jack: Tell me what that means.

Phyllis: Happiness. We deserve happiness.

Jack: We —

Phyllis: Ahh. ‘Cause we are inevitable.

Jack: Okay, I have to —

Phyllis: The two of us are inevitable.

Jack: I have to ask if this sudden brazenness has to do with diane.

Phyllis: Wait. Diane? What?

Jack: She showed up at crimson lights, and all of a sudden you can’t keep your hands off of me.

Phyllis: Because you’re irresistible.

Jack: Wait, honey. Level with me. She get under your skin?

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] No. I mean, maybe diane coming into town pushed me towards you, made me see what was really there. You know what I mean? But that’s it. Made me realize… that I want you. You are the endgame. We are the endgame.

Jack: Okay.

Kyle: I don’t need a restraining order against my mother. She is family to me. We had a strong bond when I was a kid, a foundation to build on, but my relationship with ashland is rocky at best. My mother has respected my decisions and followed my lead when it comes to harrison, but we don’t know what ashland will do.

Victor: That’s fair.

Kyle: And ashland’s lies were aggressive. He was trying to get his hands on your company.

Victor: Hmm.

Kyle: When my mother faked her death, I came to realize it was defensive. There were forces out there she was trying to protect herself from.

Victor: Mm-hmm. So, you are staying in town because of your mother?

Kyle: You seem bothered by that.

Summer: There are other reasons for considering making a permanent return to genoa city.

Kyle: But I haven’t given up on my mother, if that’s what you’re hoping for, victor.

Victor: Kyle, with all due respect, I would rethink that if I were you.

Kyle: It’s not going to happen.

Summer: Okay, but we are all in agreement about the restraining order for ashland.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Summer: So, what’s the next step?

Victor: Michael baldwin will file the restraining order, you know? That’s it. Now I need to get going. Alright? Kyle, I got to tell you, ever since you discovered that harrison was your son, I have noticed that you have a very strong paternal instinct, very protective, very loving, very supportive of harrison. You’ll be a much better father than ashland locke will ever be.

[ Cellphone pings ]

will continue.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Adam: This is a surprise. I thought you were busy with meetings.

Victor: I rescheduled, son.

Adam: Why?

Victor: What do you mean, why? I have work to do.

Adam: You’re sure that’s all it is?

Victor: Why do you ask?

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Well, at the risk of sounding paranoid, a regime change?

Victor: Son, if I did that without informing you, that would be rather cold-blooded, wouldn’t it?

Adam: Some people would say that you are more than capable of making a move like that.

Victor: Who are some people?

Adam: The hosts of that new podcast, “the grinning soul,” say that the so-called business elites are all corrupted by power. Makes it sound like it’s a personality defect.

Victor: He’s a blithering idiot.

Adam: Well, that idiot is gaining an audience. Billy abbott may be onto something when he hand-picked that guy to be on his platform and also start his own podcast.

Victor: If you don’t like what that man says, why the hell do you listen to him?

Adam: Billy’s musings are a bit of a joke, but I think he’s onto something with the podcast focusing on a particular audience. I had the same idea for newman.

Victor: And I told you to run with it.

Adam: You did. And that was the right call. But then all hell broke loose with victoria and locke, and i got kicked out of the co-ceo and replaced with nikki. Opportunity lost.

Victor: Please stop whining about that, alright? You’ve told me several times that you missed out on opportunities at newman.

Michael: Here is a copy of the restraining order. Look it over and let me know if you’d like me to change anything.

[ Cellphone vibrates ] Oh. Hmm. Oh, excuse me. I got take this. Yes?

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Summer: [ Sighs ] Is everything okay?

Kyle: I think so.

Summer: I know that you still have a few doubts, but this is the right thing to do.

Kyle: I hope so.

Summer: Do you remember that nightmare that harrison had, ashland in the graveyard? He woke up crying for “father.” That was all because of ashland’s lies. Don’t feel sorry for him. He is despicable. He used harrison as a part of his scam. No one could possibly think that he was lying after he told his own son that he was sick and dying.

Kyle: Yeah. I have no sympathy for him. I am focusing on my son. I’m worried about how this will affect him.

Summer: I get it. I’m concerned, too.

[ Breathes deeply ] I know that I’m not harrison’s biological mother. But I am going to protect that boy with all that I have. Right now, ashland has a right to see harrison. You signed a document agreeing to that. We have to get rid of that document. If ashland goes to court demanding to see him, we can’t have that happen. This is the first step in stopping that. We can’t let ashland put any more lies or poison in his head.

Kyle: You’re right. I can’t let that happen.

Ashland: Harrison!

Harrison: Father!

Ashland: Hey! It’s good to see you, big guy! How you doing, huh?

Harrison: Good.

Linda: Excuse me. What are you doing?

Ashland: Oh, oh, I’m sorry. I’m, uh — I’m ashland locke. I’m harrison’s, well, other father.

Linda: I know who you are.

Ashland: Oh. Excellent. Well, it’s nice to meet you, and thank you for taking such good care of him. It’s a really great coincidence that we’ve run into each other here because if you want to take a break, I would love to have some alone time with him.

Diane: I received a courtesy text message that some mail was mistakenly left here for me. I had requested to have it sent to me at my new room at the athletic club, but someone chose not to do that.

Clerk: Would you like me to look into it?

Diane: Oh, no, no, it’s alright. I’m certain I know who’s responsible. Don’t worry. I know it wasn’t you. It must be an absolute terror working for phyllis. Exhausting at the very least. Am I right?

Clerk: Let me see what I can find, ms. Jenkins.

Diane: [ Scoffs ] Phyllis, you are a piece of work.

Phyllis: Uh, I’m a piece of work? I kicked you out of my hotel. Leave. Goodbye.

Diane: I will gladly leave once I get the mail that you were supposed to forward to me.

Phyllis: The mail’s right there. Get it and get out.

Diane: I need to go through it, make sure I’m not missing anything.

Jack: Come here. Come here. What is going on?

Phyllis: What are you talking about?

Jack: We just had a wonderful time upstairs, and suddenly you have to get dressed and have to come down here.

Phyllis: It’s a busy afternoon. We’re short-staffed.

Jack: I think the timing’s kind of interesting.

Phyllis: Are you saying i planned this? Want more from your vitamins?

Phyllis: Do you really think that I would plan us getting off of the elevator when diane arrived at the hotel? I mean, how could I even do that?

Jack: You’re saying it’s beyond your capabilities?

Phyllis: I mean, well, it’s definitely not beyond my capabilities. We both know that. But I would never do th– listen. I’m not gonna ruin an amazing afternoon with us, you know, by an appearance of diane. You know that, right?

Jack: I just don’t get it. Were you trying to impress her? Are you marking your territory?

Phyllis: No, I’m not doing any of that. I mean, you believe me, right?

Jack: Your blouse is still unbuttoned.

Phyllis: Thank you.

Jack: Listen, I got a meeting to get to, and it’s gonna take the valet a while to get my car, so…we’ll talk later.

Phyllis: Right. You were amazing, by the way! You were wonderful! Did you hear that?

Diane: Uh, don’t mind me. I’m just gathering my correspondence.

Phyllis: Mm, well, you’re gonna take 30 minutes looking through those letters. By the way… stop what you’re doing. Stop filling jack’s head with suspicions.

Diane: Is he questioning your motives? Oh, no. But I don’t think he’s getting those ideas from me. Jack’s not stupid. He can see what you’re up to.

Phyllis: I’m not up to anything, diane.

Diane: Oh, my gosh. I don’t know if you’re delusional and really believe that or you’ve become a terrible liar. It’s okay, phyllis. I get it. The relationship isn’t solid. So you’re lashing out at me because you feel insecure.

Phyllis: I’m not insecure. There’s nothing insecure about me. I’m not insecure about my relationship with jack, by the way. And you should know that you will never, ever, ever, ever have a romantic relationship with jack abbott ever again. When he came down here, he couldn’t stand the sight of you. That’s why he ran out of here so quickly.

Diane: I-I don’t think it was me that he was trying to get away from.

Diane: Look at you two! Like a couple of teenagers. Or was all that sloppy kissing for my benefit?

Jack: And keep in mind there is a lot of contentious history between the two of them.

Diane: Well, I’m just pointing out that I show up in town and everyone starts falling in love, like you two. The timing is…

Diane: Well, I’m just pointing out that I show up in town and everyone starts falling in love.

Kyle: Why would there be a connection between my mother coming back and you and phyllis getting together?

Jack: I’m just struck by…

Jack: [ Sighs ]

Victor: Son, you’re gonna have to get over your grievances, alright? This “I should have been running newman enterprises” refrain is getting tiresome and won’t get you anywhere. And I won’t have you continue to tarnish victoria’s work.

Adam: I wasn’t tarnishing anything. I was just reminding you that we had the podcast idea first.

Victor: Then do it! Do your own podcast. Create your own streaming platform out of here, out of this office. This is your domain.

Adam: Sure. Sure. I can initiate a project like that. Then victoria’s gonna come home and she’s gonna shut it down because it’s my idea.

Victor: Make it so damn profitable that she can’T.

Adam: I will do my best.

Victor: Good. I know this is very frustrating for you. I understand that. But you have got to know that ashland locke is now out of victoria’s life. He’ll soon be out of town. And victoria will move on. And things will get back to normal.

Adam: Well, maybe I would be more motivated about all of this if you shared your plan with me.

Ashland: [ Imitating explosions ]

[ Laughs ] Oh, you know, everybody needs a break, so if you want to step away for a minute, stretch your legs…

Linda: My legs are fine.

Ashland: Uh, okay. Well, um, would it be okay if i just take him down to the duck pond and we can feed the ducks, huh? Just the two of us. What do you think?

Harrison: Yeah!

Ashland: Yay!

Kyle: No ducks today, buddy, but how about some ice cream?

Harrison: Yeah!

Kyle: Yeah? Linda, do you mind to make sure harrison gets extra sprinkles on his cone?

Linda: Do you want chocolate or strawberry today?

Harrison: Chocolate.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ]

Harrison: Can father come?

Ashland: Y-you know what? I can’t right now, so you enjoy your ice cream, and I’ll see you soon, and then we’ll feed the ducks together. How’s that? Yeah? Okay. Okay. You know, I didn’t, uh — I didn’t realize I needed to bring a lawyer with me to visit with harrison at the park, but if that’s the way you want to play it, then next time I’ll bring an army of lawyers.

Michael: May I?

Kyle: I’ll handle it. We filed a restraining order against you. You will be served later today.

Ashland: You can’t be serious.

Kyle: Mm. Legally, you can no longer spend time with harrison. You must avoid all contact with him. And now please welcome ana montoya.

Victor: My plan to make sure that ashland locke leaves town is already in motion.

Adam: While victoria is out of town?

Victor: Yeah. With her out of town, there’s no reason for him to stay here, except one.

Adam: [ Sighs ] That, um, boy, harrison.

Victor: Yeah.

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Victor: And I told kyle and summer to make sure that he doesn’t get near the boy.

Adam: Can they do that legally? I thought ashland’s name was on the birth certificate. I assume that gives him some rights.

Victor: I told them to get a restraining order.

Adam: Locke has a lot of expensive lawyers at his disposal. He could fight it.

Victor: Oh, yeah? Think about it for a moment. Do you think he wants his cancer scam to become public knowledge and public record?

Adam: You are definitely playing hard ball. But you’ve always had a soft spot for kids. I mean, this is coming at harrison’s expense.

Victor: That kid will be much better off without locke filling his head with lies.

Adam: I suppose.

Victor: Without that little boy, there’s not a damn reason for ashland locke to stay in town, okay?

Ashland: This is a joke. Michael, you are a joke.

Michael: I’ve been called worse.

Ashland: My lawyers will chew you up and spit you out. This restraining order you are talking about — it will end up in the trash.

Michael: Oh, well, we look forward to hearing your counterarguments in court. I personally am going to enjoy hearing you explain to the judge that you lied to an innocent young child about your illness and your impending death and your entirely stolen identity.

Ashland: Kyle, this is unfair, not just to me, but to harrison. You are punishing harrison for the deeply regretted mistakes of his father.

Kyle: We are protecting harrison.

Ashland: From me?

Kyle: That’s right.

Ashland: I have done nothing but look out for that boy. I could have made a scene just now. I could have demanded time with him, which I am entitled to, but I didn’t do that because i didn’t want him to get upset.

Kyle: No, you told him you were dying. That was upsetting to him.

Ashland: Which I deeply regret and I’ve apologized for.

Kyle: Okay, you know, enough! I don’t want you anywhere near my son ever, and if you really love him, want to protect him from heartache, you will leave.

Ashland: I just want to spend some time with him.

Kyle: No, I have made up my mind! It’s best if harrison doesn’t think you’re in town ignoring him. We’ll tell him a story or something.

Ashland: [ Scoffs ]

Kyle: But either way, you will be gone.

Ashland: This is monstrous.

Kyle: No, ashland. You are.

Jack: Ah.

Diane: Maybe I’m not jack’s favorite person right now, but i remember times he couldn’t tolerate you. Apparently, he got over that.

Phyllis: Well, he just did a lot of tolerating of me upstairs just now.

Diane: Ugh! What do you want? A trophy? A standing ovation? “Best sex in the afternoon”?

Phyllis: Yeah, yeah, I want a medal right here. Right here is where I want my medal.

Diane: Oh, well, then congratulations on your tacky display. You practically jumped on the desk and waved your bra in the air — “we did it! Jack and I had sex upstairs!” Well done.

[ Scoffs ] But is that really such an accomplishment for you? Frankly, when I heard you bought a hotel, I thought you’d name it something closer to home than the “grand phoenix,” something like “quickie inn” or “bedpost notches.”

Phyllis: Okay, you know jack is more than a bedpost notch for me.

Diane: Do I?

[ Chuckles ] All kidding aside, we both know why you’re making such a show of this, taking a victory lap. It’s because this moment is probably the closest you’ll ever get to happiness. Deep down, you know that you and jack won’t last. This time won’t be any different than all the others, phyllis. You can get them into bed, but you can’t keep them.

Phyllis: Let me tell you — yeah, yeah, I accelerated my relationship with jack to throw it in your face. Who cares? Who cares? It proved my point because jack and I have a deep, connected relationship, something, diane, you will never, ever have! So, yeah, I was marking my territory, and you know what? It feels good!

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Recap written by Christine

Kyle and Summer were at the Abbott house when the doorbell rang. Kyle was apprehensive, so Summer offered a reassuring smile and said this needed to be done. They let Victor in. He commented about being invited to what used to be enemy territory. Summer said there was a lot less bad blood between the families. Victor gave a lot of credit for that to Summer and Kyle. Victor asked to see his grandson. Summer liked hearing Victor refer to Harrison that way. Kyle said Harrison was at the park with the nanny. Summer said they didn’t want Harrison to overhear this grownup conversation.

Kyle told Victor that he and Summer were thinking of relocating to Genoa City. Victor said Summer hinted at that earlier, and everyone would love it, but it would put Ashland in close proximity to Harrison. Kyle said he and Summer decided to protect their son and get a restraining order. Victor said good – that would mean Ashland would have no one in town to relate to, so he could leave. Kyle said they weren’t doing this out of revenge. Summer added that Ashland’s departure would just be a fringe benefit. Victor said Michael was already drawing up the papers for a restraining order, and they could get a judge to sign it before dinner. Kyle said they had to prepare Harrison before they made a move against Ashland.

Kyle said Harrison had been asking about Ashland. Kyle didn’t want to rush into this and rip away another member of Harrison’s family. Victor understood all that, but he said Ashland brought this on himself. Victor didn’t want Ashland using Harrison as a pawn. Kyle wondered if that was a real possibility. Summer and Victor both thought so. Victor said they could come up with a cover story about Ashland leaving town. Summer said when they first moved to Milan, Harrison missed his mom and his father, but Summer and Kyle showed him love, and he came out of it. Kyle saw the logic in this, but he knew it was going to be hard. Summer said Ashland already discussed bringing in lawyers, so they should probably beat him to the punch. Kyle concluded that this needed to be done. He said to have Michael move forward with the restraining order. Victor wanted to have Michael draw up a restraining order against Diane too.

Kyle said he didn’t need a restraining order against his mother. She was family to him. He said that his mother had respected his decisions and followed his lead when it came to Harrison, but they didn’t know what Ashland would do. He added that Ashland lied to get his hands on Victor’s company, while Diane faked her death to protect herself. Victor asked if Kyle was staying in town because of his mother. Summer said there were other reasons for the move. Kyle added that he hadn’t given up on his mother. Victor thought Kyle should rethink that. Kyle said it wasn’t going to happen. Victor had noticed Kyle had a strong paternal instinct with Harrison. He thought Kyle would be a much better father than Ashland.

After Victor left, Michael showed up with the restraining order for Kyle to look over. Michael stepped away on a call. Kyle was still feeling conflicted about this. Summer reminded Kyle about the nightmare Harrison had about Ashland being in a graveyard. Harrison had woken up crying for Father. Summer said that was all because of Ashland’s lies. “Don’t feel sorry for him. He is despicable. He used Harrison as a part of his scam. No one could possibly think that he was lying after he told his own son that he was sick and dying,” she said. Kyle had no sympathy for Ashland – he was worried about how this would affect his son. Summer acknowledged she wasn’t Harrison’s biological mother, but she vowed to protect that boy with all that she had. She said this was the first step in revoking Ashland’s legal rights to see Harrison. She said htye couldn’t let Ashland put any more lies or poison in Harrison’s head. Kyle agreed.

Adam ran into Ashland at Society. “Well look who it is. Genoa City’s least favorite glutton for punishment,” Adam said. Adam kept snarking on Ashland, and Ashland asked him to go away. Adam quipped that he didn’t want to lose his spot in the long line of people who were waiting to come in and insult Ashland. Ashland theorized that Adam was jealous he’d lost the position of town pariah. Ashland sensed Adam missed all those people hating him because if they didn’t hate him, they weren’t paying attention to him. Adam said he got back on the radar of all the people that mattered to him when he maneuvered Ashland out of the family business. Ashland asked what the Newmans did to thank Adam for that. Adam said it was none of Ashland’s business. It seemed to Ashland that Adam was still in the same position he was in before he came up with the brilliant scheme to give Ashland half a billion dollars. Adam said he was just happy that Ashland lost his wife and his company and that he was suffering. Adam asked if Ashland was in town out of spite. Ashland said he wasn’t staying for revenge. Adam hoped Ashland wasn’t here for love, since Victoria abandoned the company and left town to nurse her pathetic broken heart. Ashland said Victoria was still in charge, and she always would be, so Adam shouldn’t get any ideas.

Ashland thought Adam was trying to convince him to leave town because Victoria left. Ashland said Victoria was going to return though, and Newman thrived under her leadership. Ashland taunted Adam by saying Chancellor Winters was going to wipe Newman Media off the map. Ashland said Adam was making terrible decisions at the division, like appointing his girlfriend COO. Ashland thought Adam had his hands full with Sally. Adam laughed. He said Sally was much more than his girlfriend – she was a force of nature, and the world would soon discover that. Ashland said a volcano was a force of nature too, but he wouldn’t appoint one COO.

Adam said in the beginning, he was rooting for Ashland and Victoria, since they were both workaholics. Adam also thought it made sense that Victoria, who had intense daddy issues, would be drawn to a megalomaniac older man with a checkered past. Ashland shot back that Adam spent his whole adult life alternating between trying to win his dad’s approval and lashing out at him. Adam continued that he didn’t realize Ashland and Victoria’s relationship was based on a lie. He grudgingly gave Ashland credit for committing to the bit. Adam said Ashland might want to head out to Hollywood and make it as an actor. Ashland wondered if Adam was trying to get him to leave town because he was worried Victoria would take him back. Adam said Ashland had a chance to win Victoria back a few weeks ago, but now she’d fled the country. Adam said Ashland would never get Victoria to forgive him. “Watch me,” Ashland replied. Adam texted Sally that Ashland was more determined than ever to win Victoria back. Sally texted a thumbs up. Ashland got a text from someone saying that Harrison and his nanny were at the park alone. Adam asked if Ashland got good news. Ashland said it was very good, and he left.

Ashland showed up at the park and approached Harrison. He got a warm response from Harrison and a frosty one from the nanny. Ashland introduced himself as Harrison’s other father. The nanny said she already knew who Ashland was. He unsuccessfully tried to convince the woman to take a break and leave him alone with the boy. Kyle and Michael showed up just as Ashland was asking Harrison to go with him to feed the ducks. Kyle asked the nanny to take Harrison to get ice cream. Harrison asked if Father could come, but Ashland said he couldn’t right now, but they’d see each other soon. Harrison and the nanny left. Ashland said he didn’t realize he needed to bring a lawyer to visit Harrison, but next time he’d bring an army of them. Michael wanted to be the one to spring this news on Ashland, but Kyle said he’d handle it. Kyle revealed that they filed a restraining order against Ashland on Harrison’s behalf. Ashland said Michael was a joke, and so was this restraining order. He vowed to fight. Michael looked forward to Ashland telling a judge how he lied to a child about his illness, impending death and stolen identity. Ashland told Kyle that he was punishing Harrison. Kyle maintained that they were protecting the child. Ashland said he had done nothing but look out for that boy – he could’ve made a scene just now, but he didn’t because he didn’t want to upset Harrison. Kyle spat that Ashland told Harrison he was dying. Ashland said he’d apologized for that. Kyle didn’t want Ashland around his son. Ashland tried to plead his case, but Kyle’s mind was made up. Kyle said it was best if Harrison didn’t think Ashland was in town ignoring him. Kyle said they’d come up with a story for Harrison, but either way, Ashland would be gone. Ashland said this was monstrous. “No, Ashland. You are,” Kyle replied.

Adam went to his office and was surprised Victor was there, sitting in Adam’s chair. Victor said he’d rescheduled his meetings because he had work to do. Adam admitted this was paranoid, but he wondered if he’d been fired. Victor said that it would be rather cold blooded if he did that without informing Adam. Adam said some people would say Victor was capable of making a move like that. Adam stated that the host of the new podcast, The Grinning Soul, said the business elites were corrupted by power. Victor thought the host was a blithering idiot. Adam said that the guy was gaining an audience. Adam thought Billy may have been on to something when he hand-picked that mystery host to be on his platform. Adam said Billy’s musings were a bit of a joke, but it was a good idea to have a podcast targeted at a particular audience. Adam had the same idea for Newman. Victor said he told Adam to run with it. Adam said he did, but then he got kicked out of the CEO job, and Nikki became co-CEO. Victor wanted Adam to stop whining about that.

Victor thought Adam’s “I should’ve run Newman Enterprises” refrain was tiresome. He said he wouldn’t have Adam tarnish Victoria’s work. Adam disputed that he was tarnishing anything. He was just pointing out that they had the podcast idea first. Victor told Adam to create his own podcast or streaming platform from Newman Media. Adam said if he did that, Victoria would shut it down, just because it was his idea. “Make it so damn profitable that she can’t,” Victor countered. Adam said he’d do his best. Victor understood this was frustrating for Adam, but he stated that Ashland was out of Victoria’s life, and things would go back to normal once Ashland left town. Adam wanted to know Victor’s plan to drive Ashland away. Victor said he told Kyle and Summer to keep Ashland away from Harrison. Adam thought Ashland’s name was on the birth certificate, which would give him some rights to Harrison. Victor said he told Kyle and Summer to get a restraining order. Adam thought Ashland could fight it. Victor didn’t think Ashland would, since he wouldn’t want the cancer scam to go public. Adam said Victor always had a soft spot for kids, and this was coming at Harrison’s expense. Victor was adamant that Harrison would be better off without Locke filling his head with lies.

At Crimson Lights, Jack told Phyllis that they should take on a vacation. He suggested the beach, a mountain vacation or a shopping excursion. She chose all three, and he laughed. She asked if he’d noticed she could laugh at herself lately. He had noticed. He also noticed she’d been laughing a lot today. She said she wasn’t distracted by the woman who’d remain nameless. Diane walked in just as Phyllis took Jack’s hand. When Phyllis saw Diane, she abruptly pulled Jack into a kiss. Diane asked if that sloppy kiss was for her benefit. Jack said they didn’t even know Diane was here, but Diane countered that Phyllis had looked right at her. Phyllis said Diane wasn’t as eye-catching as she seemed to think. Diane thought she deserved some credit for rekindling Jack and Phyllis’s romance, since they clearly weren’t together in LA. Diane felt that she’d brought love to Genoa City.

Jack didn’t think most people associated Diane with love. He had to step away to take a call. “You seem to think that you and Jack and Kyle and Harrison are a package deal. I think you’ve forgotten something. Jack hates you,” Phyllis said. Diane thought Phyllis was exaggerating. Phyllis was adamant that Jack’s hatred for Diane was so intense that it shocked her. Diane smiled and said it was flattering that Jack had such intense feelings for her – they had history, some was bad, but most of it was good. Jack returned, and Phyllis kissed him and suggested they go have an indoor celebration. As Jack and Phyllis were leaving, Phyllis turned back and stuck her tongue out at Diane.

Phyllis and Jack went to her hotel room and kissed. She told him she felt so positive, and she traced that feeling back to when they made love. She said they deserved happiness. He wondered if this sudden brazenness had to do with Diane. Phyllis admitted maybe Diane’s return made her realize she wanted Jack. “We are the endgame,” she said.

Back at Crimson Lights, Diane got an alert on her phone that made her annoyed with Phyllis. She went to the Grand Phoenix and spoke to the clerk. Diane explained that she’d had it set up so her mail would be forwarded to her at the Genoa City Athletic Club, but she got a delivery text stating that someone at the Grand Phoenix had taken possession of it instead. At that point, Jack and Phyllis were coming downstairs in the elevator. They weren’t completely dressed, so Jack was putting his tie back on, and Phyllis had been cinching up her dress. When Phyllis saw Diane, she began to loosen the top of her dress instead, and Jack looked caught off guard. They overheard Diane say it must be a nightmare working for Phyllis.

Diane told Phyllis she was a piece of work. Phyllis told Diane to leave. Diane said she would as soon as she got the mail that was supposed to be forwarded to her. Phyllis pointed at it – it was sitting on the front desk. Diane went through it to make sure it was all there. Jack took Phyllis aside and said that they were having a great time upstairs until she’d suddenly insisted that they had to get dressed and come downstairs. She asked if he was accusing him of planning this run-in with Diane. He thought the timing was suspicious. She said she wouldn’t ruin their amazing afternoon by staging an appearance of Diane. Jack asked if Phyllis was trying to impress Diane or marking her territory. She said she wouldn’t do that. He had to get to his meeting. He tried to give her a quick peck on the lips, but she pulled him into a deeper kiss. As he was leaving, she loudly told him how amazing he’d been earlier. He left. Phyllis asked if Diane heard that.

Phyllis told Diane to stop filling Jack’s head with suspicions. “I don’t think he’s getting those ideas from me. Jack’s not stupid. He can see what you’re up to,” Diane said. Phyllis denied being up to anything. Diane wasn’t sure if Phyllis was delusional or if she’d become a terrible liar. “It’s okay Phyllis. I get it. The relationship isn’t solid, so you’re lashing out at me because you feel insecure,” Diane said. Phyllis’s temper flared. She snapped that she was not insecure, and she added that Diane would never ever ever ever have a romantic relationship with Jack ever again. Phyllis said Jack ran out of here so quickly because he couldn’t stand the sight of Diane. Diane didn’t think she was the one Jack was trying to get away from.

Diane said that she might not currently be Jack’s favorite person, but she remembered times when he couldn’t tolerate Phyllis, which he’d apparently gotten over. “Well he just did a lot of tolerating of me upstairs just now,” Phyllis replied. Diane asked if Phyllis wanted a trophy for Best Sex in the Afternoon. Phyllis squeezed her breast and said she wanted a medal right there. Diane called Phyllis tacky. Diane said that she thought Phyllis would’ve named the hotel sometime like Bedpost Notches. Phyllis said Jack was more than a notch on her bedpost. Diane thought Phyllis was celebrating right now because she knew deep down this was the closest she’d ever get to happiness. Diane said Phyllis knew she and Jack wouldn’t last. “This time won’t be any different than all the others. You can get them into bed but you can’t keep them,” Diane said.

Jack was outside the hotel waiting for his driver. He wondered whether Phyllis was stepped up her pursuit of him because of Diane. He happened to come back in while the argument between Diane and Phyllis was in full swing. Phyllis revealed that she had sped up her relationship with Jack. “Yeah, I accelerated to throw it in your face. Who cares?” Phyllis snapped. “Jack and I have a deep connected relationship. Something, Diane, you will never have. So yeah, I was marking my territory and you know what? It feels good!,” Phyllis yelled in Diane’s face. Diane spotted Jack, who watching, open-mouthed. Diane shot a gleeful smile at Phyllis.

Recap written by Christine

Nick talked to Sharon at Crimson Lights. He was glad to see her smiling. He was surprised she was working though – he thought she’d take some time off after the wedding. She preferred to keep busy and focus on the positive, but she had a lot of diversions, thanks to Ashland and Diane traipsing around. She said she was fine, though. Chance came in and pulled Sharon aside to talk to her. He congratulated her on the wedding, and she said it went better than she hoped. He asked if she ever danced at the reception. She didn’t, because it didn’t feel right. One day she thought she might find joy in doing things that reminded her of Rey. Chance said one of his teammate in Spain’s wife called, and he’d been happy to hear from her, so he could assure Sharon that things got better. He asked how she was. He acknowledged that she’d been busy with the funeral and wedding, and he knew once things got quiet, the hard part began. She said that was true, but she had a lot of people who where there for her. He said that included him and Abby.

Sharon thanked Chance for organizing the GCPD memorial for Rey. It helped her to see how many people cared about him. Chance said they all cared about Sharon too. Sharon asked how Chance was doing after losing his partner and friend. He could feel Rey watching over him, hopefully not judging his detective skills, though. She was sure Rey wouldn’t judge. She said that Rey had been optimistic that things would turn around for Chance. She added that Rey witnessed a lot of wrong, but he never gave up believing in love and decency in people. Chance said he was working on closing all of Rey’s cases to pay tribute. She thought that was a nice way to honor Rey. After Chance left, Sharon talked with Nick. She said she and Chance both carried Rey in their hearts. Nick said that the people they lost never really left them. He carefully pointed out that Cassie’s anniversary was a couple of days ago. He said normally, he and Sharon would go to the cemetery and bring flowers and share memories of their sweet little girl. Sharon noted that they didn’t do that this year. Nick had tried to follow Sharon’s cues and give her space, but he was concerned by the fact that she hadn’t brought it up yet.

Sharon said when she woke up that morning, her first thought was on Cassie. It occurred to Sharon that Cassie had now been gone longer than she was with them. Sharon had then looked at Rey’s side of the bed, and it was just too much. She said she’d tried to compartmentalize her grief so she wouldn’t be in bed all day paralyzed. She decided not to talk about the anniversary because if she did, she would’ve fallen apart. Nick understood. Sharon was tearful. She said that she focused on getting through that day, and the next morning, she felt like she’d gotten through the deepest darkest part of it and that she could go on. He was glad to hear that. She was sorry she worried him. He didn’t want her to apologize. He asked if there was anything he could do. She was ready to visit Cassie’s grave, and she asked him to go. He extended his hand, and she took it. Sharon and Nick returned to Crimson Lights after visiting their daughter’s grave. Sharon felt better now – at peace, and a lot of that was thanks to Nick. She said he helped her get through a rough patch. He said she’d do the same for him, because that was what family was about. They hugged.

Abby brought Dominic over to Devon and Amanda’s because he was going to spend a few days with them. They talked about how well the baby was doing. His follow up appointment was soon, but the doctors had been monitoring his progress, and all indications were that he was doing well after his bone marrow transplant. After Abby left, Devon put Dominic upstairs and set up the baby monitor so he could hear his son during the meeting with Billy and Nate. Amanda was going into the office. She asked what the work dynamic was like – working with his cousin, sister and her boyfriend. He said it took getting used to not being the only one making the decisions anymore. Amanda said she loved Imani, but it was a little tricky having her sister report to her, especially since Imani would rather they were on equal footing. Devon said that at the end of the day, they were family, so that should make things a little easier.

Elena came home from work exhausted after a night shift, and Nate gave her a quick shoulder massage. They weren’t getting much time together, due to their jobs. He suggested and she agreed, that they should plan a date night this weekend. She needed a nap, and he left to get coffee before his work meeting.

Imani ran into Nate at Crimson Lights. She said she reviewed the legal aspects of his proposal, and she was really impressed. She said he was very brazen for someone who’d just entered the business field, and that was a compliment. She hoped Devon began to recognize Nate’s value. She thought Devon and Amanda were a bit too conservative. Nate said there was a lot he could learn from Devon. He was sure Imani felt the same way about working with Amanda. Imani agreed, but she said sometimes fresh ideas were needed. Imani thought she and Nate had new energy, and she felt they should flaunt it and fight for what they wanted – what was the worst that could happen?

Nate went to Devon’s and met with him and Billy. Lily was away meeting Jill. Billy said he’d fill her in on the meeting. The logistics for the party were taken care of, according to Billy. He said Devon should be ready to do some interviews, solo and with Lily. Devon was prepared. Last night, Nate emailed Devon and Billy some ideas he had for future ventures. He thought they might want to announce them at the event. Devon didn’t think the best strategy for a launch was to reveal everything they were doing right out of the gate. Nate advocated for being bold and open. Devon said they didn’t want to give their competition the ability to get ahead of them. Nate thought Billy would agree with him. Billy understood Nate’s view, but he agreed with Devon. Billy said if they announced all the projects at once, the projects wouldn’t get the individual attention that they should. Billy suggested a happy medium – maybe they could announce the two projects Devon and Lily were most excited about and tease more was to come. Devon and Nate were both okay with that.

Elena had a dream that Imani asked Nate to take a shower with her. After the dream, Elena woke up and went to Crimson Lights where she ran into Imani. Elena was surprised Imani was here in the middle of a work day. Imani said she was just taking a break from the office. She invited Elena to join her. Elena said she’d planned to get something to go, but she accepted the offer. She went to place an order, and Imani grimaced. Elena asked if Imani was fitting in at Chancellor Winters. Imani said there was a learning curve, but there was a strong sense of unity and teamwork. She couldn’t wait to see where it all lead. Elena pointedly said she couldn’t wait to be by Nate’s side every step of the way. Amanda walked in joined the pair. Imani remarked that the three of them hanging out had become a regular thing. Elena said she wouldn’t go that far. Amanda thanked Elena for her kindness the other day when she and Imani were worried about their mother. Imani said that, with Nate in the corporate world, they were lucky to still have a doctor in the extended family. Elena was happy to help. She abruptly left.

Amanda glared at Imani and said Nate was off limits. Imani said she understood. She didn’t see what the problem was. Amanda snapped that it was pretty clear what the problem was. Amanda had to go home and get her flash drive. She asked her sister to heed her words about Nate. Imani said she was just having fun, and she had no agenda when it came to Nate.

Amanda went home and overheard Devon and Dominic on the monitor. Devon said family drove you crazy, but you’d always love them. Amanda smiled and headed upstairs, where she cooed over the baby too.

At their place, Nate told Elena that the meeting ended well thanks to Billy, but there was still tension between Nate and Devon. Nate said he and Devon had a similar issue yesterday too. Elena asked if there was a problem developing between Nate and Devon. Nate didn’t think so. He said it was more like growing pains. He thought it must be difficult for Devon who went from being the sole boss to having to discuss his thoughts with Lily, Billy and Nate. Elena wasn’t surprised two brilliant strong men would be clashing a bit. She said both men were excited to work together, and they both wanted the company to succeed. Nate said he came here because he felt guilty about something. Elena was nervous. Nate said he realized that just suggesting a weekend date didn’t cut it. He noted that his schedule was more flexible than hers, so he thought he should work around her schedule and make sure they’d have more time together. He was going to make her his top priority. She loved him for thinking that way, for putting her at the top of his list and for coming here just to tell her that. She thought their relationship should be tended to by both of them. She couldn’t always dictate her schedule, but she knew of other ways she could show him how much she loved him. She began to undress him.

Abby was annoyed when Diane showed up at Society. she smirked when Diane requested a table for one, but Diane said she didn’t mind dining alone. She said she’d have more time to socialize because she’d be staying in Genoa City longer because Kyle wanted to spend more time together. Abby wasn’t surprised Kyle made that choice, but she thought he’d come to regret it. Diane said she’d make sure he didn’t. She understood Abby and the rest of the town would think the worst of her. She revealed that she relocated to the GCAC indefinitely with Kyle’s financial support. Diane wanted to be upfront about it because she was sure once everyone heard about Kyle’s generosity, they’d assume she had her hand out, which wasn’t true. Abby said people didn’t spend time and energy wondering what Diane’s next move was going to be – they just thought she was a terrible person, if they thought of her at all.

Billy went to Society, and Abby informed him that Kyle put Diane up at the GCAC indefinitely. Billy hoped the family could accept Kyle’s choice. He thought it was possible that Diane changed. Abby understood why Billy was willing to give Diane the benefit of the doubt, but she thought he was giving Diane more credit than she deserved. He said he’d own it if he was wrong. Abby answered the hotel phone, and Billy went and asked if he could sit with Diane.

Diane was relieved Billy wasn’t treating her like the town pariah. He said he’d been the pariah more than once. She said more than a few people could say the same, but they were the first to criticize and ostracize. She appreciated having a break. He made it clear he didn’t forget what she did to Kyle and the other Abbotts, but he was interested in what she was planning to do now. He wondered why she was sticking around when Kyle and Summer would be leaving soon. She told him that they might be moving back to Genoa City. As long as Kyle wanted her nearby, she would. He tensed up hearing she was willing to stay permanently. Billy hadn’t changed his outlook on things, but he was thinking about other people, like Jack, who would have a different reaction if Diane moved to Genoa City. Diane said Jack wasn’t happy she was here, but he supported Kyle’s wishes. Billy said Jack always protected his son, as he should. Diane said when she first met Jack, he wasn’t always reliable and paternal, but he’d come a long way. She wanted to be as good of a mother as Jack was a father. Billy understood the urge to compare, but he didn’t think it would do Diane any good. He advised her to focus on being the best version of herself that she could. She asked when he became so wise. He said he wasn’t wise, but he’d been through some things, and he wanted to help people. She hoped his forgiving nature rubbed off on his brother. She suggested he might want to put in a good word for her. He said his family knew his opinion. Billy believed people could change, and if redemption was possible for him, it was possible for others. He wasn’t going to change his tune unless she gave him a reason to.

Abby saw Chance standing outside, and she went out to see what was going on. He pulled her into a deep kiss. She asked what brought this on. He said he had a break in a case, and he did everything by the book. He was going to close all of Rey’s cases. She was proud of him, and she knew Rey was too.

Devon: Hey, hey!

Abby: Hey! Mwah. Dominic is so excited about spending a few days with you guys.

Devon: Oh, he can’t be as excited as I am.

Amanda: No, no, devon has been like a 5-year-old on christmas morning. He woke up early just to make sure that dom had everything that he needed.

Devon: That’s right, I did. I missed you, buddy. I did. Ready to have a good time? You’re gonna love these new books I got for him.

Abby: Ooh.

Amanda: Oh, my gosh, he’s growing by the minute. I can’t get over how big he is.

Abby: Stronger, too. I mean, he’s developed quite an arm. You would not believe how far he can throw his breakfast food. I find cereal all over the place.

Devon: Oh, boy. No. I got to learn how to duck now.

Abby: [ Laughs ] Thinking about getting a dog to follow him around and clean up all his scraps.

[ Laughter ]

Devon: No. Well, I’ve been warned, but we’re gonna try and eat more than we throw when you’re here, okay?

Abby: Well, he has a very healthy appetite and he’s sleeping really well, too.

Devon: That’s great. Those are all signs that he’s made a full recovery.

Abby: Yeah, yeah. You know, his follow-up appointment is coming soon, but his doctors have been following his progress very closely since his bone marrow transplant, and they say he’s doing great.

Devon: That’s wonderful.

Abby: Thank god.

Devon: Yeah. We have a very resilient little boy, huh?

Abby: Yeah. He’s perfect, isn’t he?

Devon: Well, I’m not biased or anything.

Abby: [ Laughs ] Hi.

Nick: Hey.

I’m fine.

Chance: Hey, nick.

Nick: Hey, what’s up, man?

Chance: How you doing?

Nick: Good.

Chance: Hi, sharon.

Sharon: Hey.

Chance: Hey, I was hoping i could talk to you for a few minutes. That is, if I’m not interrupting anything important.

Sharon: Uh, no, no, not at all.

Nick: Yeah, no, it’s cool.

Chance: Thank you.

Elena: [ Sighs ]

Nate: Hey.

Elena: Hey.

Nate: I was hoping I’d get to see you before I left.

Elena: Mm.

Nate: How was work?

Elena: Hmm, good, but I am exhausted.

Nate: Mm.

Elena: [ Chuckles ]

Nate: Those all-night shifts can be tough, and you’ve been doing a lot more than usual lately.

Elena: Yeah, you’ve been working pretty long hours, too. You know, I thought we’d be able to spend more time together when you changed careers. But with the chancellor-winters launch, doesn’t seem like that’s gonna be for a while.

Nate: We’re gonna have to work a lot harder to carve out some alone time for just us.

Elena: Sounds like a plan.

Nate: Hey, why don’t we schedule a date night this weekend? Something special, romantic, sexy.

Elena: This weekend?

[ Chuckles ] That sounds good. I’ll see you then.

Nate: You know what? My coffee run can wait. Why don’t I stick around for a little longer?

Elena: No, no. I don’t want to slow down chancellor-winter’s newest coo. Besides, I think I really need to take a nap.

Nate: Okay. Well, I’ll let you get some rest, and I will try to come back and see you before your next shift.

Elena: Okay.

Nate: Okay.

Elena: [ Sighs ]

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Chance: So, again, I just have to congratulate you on the wedding. It was truly an amazing day.

Sharon: Oh, it really was wonderful, wasn’t it? You know, things actually went even better than I hoped. So thank you for being there. I’m really glad that you and abby could share that with us.

Chance: Absolutely. Did you ever hit the dance floor?

Sharon: No. It just didn’t seem right.

Chance: I understand.

Sharon: Well, hopefully, one day soon, I’ll get to the point where I find that doing things that remind me of rey bring me joy.

Chance: The other day, one of my teammates that was in spain with me, his wife called me. And I was actually happy to talk to her. And this feels weird telling this to a therapist, but eventually things do get better.

Sharon: Thank you. That means a lot, coming from you. I know that you’ve been through a lot.

Chance: So how are you? I know with the funeral and the wedding back-to-back, I’m sure you haven’t had a moment to just sit and process everything. I know when things get quieter, that’s when the hard part begins.

Sharon: That is when the hard part begins. Um…I’m not gonna deny that it’s — it’s been really tough. But I have a lot of people around me who love me and support me and I can lean on them.

Chance: I hope you know that includes abby and I. Anything you need, really.

Sharon: Thank you. And, you know, I meant to thank you for organizing the gcpd memorial for rey. That was — that was really nice to see how many people love him and admire him.

Chance: Well, he is sorely missed in the department, I’ll tell you. And everyone down there, we care about you, sharon. We understand this was very sudden, and, well, we just can’t help but worry.

He really admired you, and he would be thrilled to know how well you’re doing now at home and at work.

Chance: I hope so.

Sharon: Oh, yeah. You know, even though you’ve been through some really hard times, rey, he always believed that things would turn around for you. He was just an optimist at heart. And even though he’s witnessed a lot of wrong in the world, he just never gave up belief in love and basic decency of people.

Chance: Yeah, I know. I know, and I’m trying to do the same. I’m working on closing all of rey’s cases, by the way. A way to pay tribute. I’m actually headed back to the station now to follow up on some new evidence for one case. Forensics has the analysis, and I am determined to wrap it up.

Sharon: Well, that’s a really, really nice way to honor rey.

Devon: So since nate and billy will be here soon for the meeting, I’m gonna keep an ear out in case dominic wakes up.

Amanda: You gonna work from home?

Devon: I am gonna work from home. It’s the boss’ prerogative.

Amanda: Yeah, I guess so. You know, speaking of work, how has the dynamic been? Running things with your cousin, your sister, your sister’s boyfriend.

Devon: Well, you’ve seen how well we’re doing.

Amanda: Mm-hmm, I have, but you haven’t talked about how it makes you feel.

Devon: I feel it’s great.

Amanda: Yeah?

Devon: Yeah, it’s gonna take a little bit of getting used to, just ’cause, for so long, I was the only one making decisions for my company. Now it’s a whole committee where we all have to sign off on everything.

Amanda: It will be an adjustment.

Devon: Mm-hmm. I’m not complaining, though. It’s just gonna take a little time to settle in.

Amanda: Yeah. You know, I’m kind of going through the same thing.

Devon: You are?

Amanda: With imani.

Devon: Hmm.

Amanda: I mean, I love her, but it’s been a little tricky having my sister report to me, take direction from me, especially when I know that she would rather that we were on equal footing.

Devon: I can see how that could dicey for you guys.

Amanda: I do think that it’s partially because, when we started our own firm, we were supposed to be partners, you know?

Devon: Huh. Well, at least at the end of the day, we’re all family, and that should make things a little easier, right?

Amanda: Yeah, sure. If you say so.

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Imani: Nate, fancy meeting you here.

Nate: Hey. Just grabbing an espresso before my meeting with devon and billy.

Imani: Oh, I have a feeling you’d be at the top of your game with or without that jolt of caffeine. But before you run off, there’s something I wanted to just share with you.

Nate: Okay, what’s that?

Imani: I was reviewing the legal aspects of your proposal, and I was really impressed by your suggestions. For someone just switching from the medical field to business, you really are breezing. And I mean that in the best way. I admire forward thinkers.

Nate: Thank you.

[ Chuckles ] That’s quite the compliment.

Imani: I hope devon begins to recognize the value you bring to the table. Between us, I think amanda and devon are a bit too conservative.

Nate: I’m just doing my best. There’s a lot I can learn from my cousin.

Imani: Mm-hmm.

Nate: Obviously he’s been doing this a lot longer than i have. Well, I’m sure you feel the same way about working with amanda, even when you don’t see eye-to-eye.

Imani: That’s true. However, sometimes what’s needed are fresh ideas. New energy. You and I seem to have that. Why not flaunt it, fight for what we want? What’s the worst that can happen?

[ Door opens ]

Nate: I think it’s a really good idea, but we just need to fine-tune some of the details.

Imani: Well, if the concept is sound, the details work themselves out.

Nate: That’s not the way i work.

Imani: Okay, so tell me, how do you like to get things done?

Nate: Well, I like to take a more analytical approach, break down all the steps, then come up with a plan.

Imani: Hmm. I’m more of a visual learner, so I think you should show me.

Nate: Hey, hey, wait. Where do you think you’re going?

Imani: I do my best thinking in the shower. Come on, you should try it.

Elena: Hello! I’m right here. Hi, I’m karen.

Diane: Hello, abby.

Abby: [ Sighs ] May I ask what you’re doing here? And by that, why did you choose my restaurant when there are so many others to choose from?

Diane: Because your restaurant is one of the best in town. Can’t we be adults about this?

Abby: Of course. Are you meeting someone?

Diane: No, I’ll be dining alone.

Abby: [ Laughs ] What a surprise.

Diane: Oh, I really don’t mind being a party of one these days, since I’ll have plenty of time for socializing later.

Abby: Okay, I’ll bite. Explain.

Diane: I’m planning on staying in genoa city for a while longer. Kyle wanted me to stick around so we could spend more time together and work on rebuilding our relationship.

Abby: I can’t say I’m surprised, given his reaction to your return. But sadly, I think he’ll come to regret that decision.

Diane: I assure you he won’T. I’ll make sure of it. But I can understand why you and everyone else in town will view everything I do through a negative lens.

Abby: Well, I’m glad you realize that.

Diane: Yeah, so let me get ahead of one story before I’m wrongly judged.

Abby: Ooh, do tell.

Diane: I’ve relocated to the athletic club indefinitely, with kyle’s financial support. He insisted. Best to be upfront about this because I’m sure, once everybody finds out about kyle’s generosity, they’ll assume that I had my hand out, which I did not.

Abby: You really do think everything is all about you, don’t you? That we all just walk around here, wasting our time and energy wondering what your next move is gonna be, your motivation. But, see, you’re wrong. We don’T. We just think you’re a terrible person. If we bother to think about you at all.

Imani: Elena, over here. Hey.

Elena: Imani, how’s it going?

Imani: Good. Why are you looking at me like that?

Elena: Nothing, I just didn’t expect to see you here, you know, in the middle of a work daY.

Imani: Oh, I — I just wanted a break from the officE. Please join me.

Elena: I was actually gonna get something to go, but you know what? Since you asked, maybe I will. One sec.

Devon: I wish lily didn’t have to go out of town to meet with jill since chancellor-winters launch is just a week away.

Billy: Yeah, I hear you, but I’ll fill her in on everything we talk about.

Devon: Good. Where do we stand?

Billy: Well, we’re in a good place. Logistics are all taken care of. Put out another press release in order to build on the publicity that we got. The next few days, we’ll push a little bit more, create even more buzz.

Devon: Good. That sounds great.

Billy: You should be prepared to do a couple interviews, of course, solo and with lily.

Devon: Oh, for sure, yeah, I’m ready to do anything.

Nate: Hope you both had a chance to review the material i e-mailed to you last night. My thoughts on some of the future ventures I thought you might want to announce at the event.

Billy: Yeah, I was able to look at it.

Devon: I did, too, and i think it’s just a bit much.

Nate: You think it’s best to pull back?

Devon: I do, yeah. It’s just ’cause I think what you’re suggesting is a little premature. I don’t think the best strategy for a launch is to reveal everything we’re doing before we even get out the gate, you know? (Dog barking) we love our pets.

Sharon: That’s such a nice gesture, taking over all of rey’s cases. Chance is carrying rey in his heart with him, just like I am.

Nick: The people we lose never really leave us. Um…can I ask you about something? A couple days ago, it was cassie’s anniversary. Normally, we get together and we take some flowers to the cemetery. And we just talk, you know? We — we remember all the amazing memories of our sweet little girl.

Sharon: But we didn’T.

Nick: No. I wanted to make sure I gave you space, you know? I tried to follow your cues, but I don’t think I can wait any longer, sharon. The fact that you haven’t brought it up yet, I’m worried that this is affecting you more than I expected.

Diane: You’re entitled to your feelings, and they’re certainly justified, given what I put you through in the past.

Abby: I appreciate you acknowledging that.

Diane: I am truly sorry.

Abby: I hope you don’t think this “too little, too late” apology is gonna earn brownie points with me, because my opinion of you is never gonna change.

Diane: I’m not expecting it to. Nor do I expect you to hide your hostility from me if we cross paths. But please, for kyle’s sake, could you just put his feelings ahead of your own? I am only here because that’s what he wants.

Abby: I have no intention of making this painful situation any more difficult for kyle, especially after all the hurt that you’ve put him through. So, yes, I will restrain myself in his presence.

Diane: Thank you for that.

Abby: But when it’s just the two of us, I will be as hostile as I want for as long as I want. So now that we understand each other, would you still like that table for one? Or would you like to turn around and walk right back out the door?

Nate: I thought we decided that the launch event would be the perfect venue to establish our goals for the future.

Devon: You’re absolutely right about that. It is, and that’s what we’re doing. I’m just talking about holding back and teasing what we have in the works.

Nate: I think bold and open is the way to go.

Devon: The last thing we want to do is give our competition the ability to get ahead of us, right?

Nate: But this is a huge merger, devon. People are gonna be curious about our plans.

Devon: That’s fantastic. Let them be curious. That’s the point.

Nate: Don’t you think we should take full advantage of this moment? We’re gonna have the attention from the business community and the press.

Billy: Yeah, no, I understand what you’re saying here, nate, I do, but devon’s right. I mean, what you’re suggesting, it’s just too much. It would lessen the impact of everything across the board. Best way to do this is we roll out one project at a time so everything gets enough attention. Of course, maybe there’s a happy medium?

Devon: What do you suggest?

Billy: Well, I think nate’s right, it would be beneficial to announce something. You know, maybe we can talk about the two projects that you and lily are most excited about, build some momentum from there, and tease that there’s more where that came from.

Devon: Right. Yeah, that — that sounds okay to me. Is that alright with you?

Nate: I’m on board. Sounds like the perfect compromise to me.

Devon: Okay, then. That’s what we’ll do. I will have a talk with lily and we’ll figure out what initiatives we want to lead with, and we’ll go from there.

Billy: Sounds good.

Devon: Yep.

Elena: So how are you liking your new job? Do you feel like you’re fitting in with chancellor-winters?

Imani: There’s a learning curve, of course, but there’s such a strong sense of unity and teamwork.

Elena: Oh, the beauty of working with family.

Imani: Exactly, everyone’s working toward one common goal. So much potential for the future. Can’t wait to see where it all leads.

Elena: Yeah, I can’t either. And I’m excited to be by nate’s side every step of the way.

Amanda: Hi, guys. Do you mind if I join you?

Imani: Not at all. This is getting to be a regular thing, the three of us all hanging out together.

Elena: Oh, I wouldn’t go that far.

Amanda: Well, you know, elena, I am really happy that i ran into you. We are so appreciative of how kind you were when we were concerned about our mother’s health condition. Thank you so much. You are such a gem. You totally eased our worries.

Imani: Yeah, that was so kind of you. Since nate has joined the corporate world, we’re lucky to still have a doctor in our extended family.

Elena: Well, I am happy to help anytime. Um…yeah, I hope you will both excuse me, but I’m gonna get going. Amanda, it was good to see you.

Amanda: Nice to see you, too.

Elena: Bye.

Amanda: Goodbye. Imani, I thought we talked about this. What the hell are you doing? Time. It’s life’s most precious commodity,

“The young and the restless”

will continue. (Kid) why aren’t there any buildings out there?

Imani: What are you talking about? I wasn’t doing anything.

Amanda: You still haven’t gotten the message, have you? Nate is off limits.

Imani: I’ve heard this all before. He’s committed to elena. They’re very happy. I get it.

Amanda: Do you?

Imani: I said I understand. What’s the problem?

Amanda: I think it’s pretty clear what the problem is, and you know it. Oh. Oh, my gosh.

Imani: What? What’s wrong?

Amanda: I forgot my flash drive at home.

[ Sighs ] It has all the documents that i need. You know what? I’m gonna go back home. I’ll meet you at the office. But please, please take to heart what I said about nate.

Imani: [ Sighs ]

Amanda: I do not want to be having this conversation again.

Imani: I don’t either.

[ Chuckles ] Okay, I swear I’m not trying to give you a migraine. I’m just having some fun. You need to relax. I promise you I have no agenda as far as it comes to nate.

Amanda: Okay.

Billy: You look distracted.

Abby: The nerve of that woman to show up at my restaurant even though she knows I loathe her, and I truly loathe her.

Billy: Yeah, no, that’s very clear.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Billy: You know, diane gets under the skin of most people.

Abby: I thought she’d be gone by now, but kyle has decided to give her another chance.

Billy: Really?

Abby: Yeah, he put her up at the gcac. He’s even footing the bill.

Billy: Oh, family’s gonna love that.

Abby: Mm.

Billy: Well, hopefully they can respect kyle’s choice. I mean, at the end of the day, that is his mother. It seems like we’re just gonna have to get used to having diane around.

Abby: Fat chance.

Billy: Maybe she’s changed, right? Maybe, just maybe, she’ll surprise us. It’s possible.

Abby: You know, billy, I get that you’re in the second-chance camp, you know, and you’re more than willing to give people the benefit of the doubt, and i understand why, but I really do think that you are giving her more credit than she deserves.

Billy: Yeah, maybe. Maybe not. But we’re gonna see. And if I’m wrong, then I’ll own it.

[ Telephone rings ]

Abby: Society. Hi, yes, you’d like to make a reservation? Let me see what we got for you.

Diane: Oh, great, more abbott attitude to go with my lunch.

Billy: No, lucky for you, i am fresh out of attitude. I do have one question, though.

Diane: I’m almost afraid to hear it.

Billy: Is this seat taken?

Sharon: When I woke up on the morning of the anniversary, cassie was the first thought on my mind. And every year on that day, memories come flooding back to me. Happy moments, sad moments, and my anger over the way that she died.

[ Sighs ] And something occurred to me. She has now been gone longer than she was with us. How did that happen?

Nick: Still feels like it was yesterday.

Sharon: And then I looked over to the other side of the bed where rey should be laying, and, um…you know, it was just too much. All the sadness and the loss and pain. I felt like I was gonna lose it. So I, uh…I tried to compartmentalize my grief so that I wouldn’t end up having to stay in bed all day, paralyzed, because that’s the last thing that I wanted to do, and it’s the last thing that cassie would want me to do. I forced myself to get out of bed and get moving. I know that I didn’t bring it up. I decided not to talk about the anniversary because if I did…

Nick: I completely understand.

Sharon: All I could do was just focus on getting through that day, that one day. And, um…the next morning, when I woke up, I felt like I had gotten through the deepest, darkest part of it, and I knew that I could — I could keep going. I could go on.

Nick: Well, that’s what i wanted to hear.

Sharon: I’m sorry to worry you.

Nick: No, please don’t apologize. I’m just glad to hear that you’re coming through this. Is there anything else I can do?

Sharon: Well, you know, now that I am starting to feel like I’m in a better state of mind, I’d like to go to cassie’s grave and I’d like to lay flowers there. Talk to our girl, the way that we always did. Will you go with me? Whatever gives you life

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Abby: Chance? What’s up? Why didn’t you come inside?

Chance: Well, because of this.

Diane: What a relief that you’re not treating me like i have the plague.

Billy: Well, I’ve been the town pariah more than once. I know the feeling.

Diane: There’s more than a few people in this town that could say the same thing. But, of course, they’re the first to ostracize and criticize because they seem to have forgotten that. When I came back, I knew what i was in for, but I decided to roll with it. It’s just nice to have a break from it every once in a while.

Billy: Well, let me be very clear — I have not forgotten what you did to kyle or to the rest of my family. But I’m interested in what you plan on doing now.

Diane: Isn’t it obvious?

Billy: Abby mentioned that you could be sticking around a little while, which is confusing to me because kyle and summer should be going back to milan soon.

Diane: Oh, they’re possibly moving back here.

Billy: Are you sure about that?

Diane: I have no idea how or when, but that’s what kyle told me. And I get the impression they’re going to make it happen. That’s why kyle asked me to stay, and as long as he wants me nearby, that’s where I’ll be.

Billy: Meaning you’d stay permanently.

Diane: Without a moment’s hesitation. Are you feeling a little less friendly towards me now?

Devon: Hey, dom.

How you doing, buddy?

That was a nice, long nap you

had, huh?

Yeah.

How about I keep you company

now?

Do you mind?

I don’t mind, ’cause I love you

so much, man.

That’s the thing about

families.

Even when they make you crazy,

love is always there.

You believe me, don’t you?

Yeah, I know you do.

‘Cause we’re a team.

[ Chuckles ]

Amanda: There’s my two

favorite guys.

Devon: Dominic, look who’s

home!

Amanda: Aww!

Devon: Did you miss her?

Amanda: Look at that face.

He really missed me.

He did.

Elena: So how did the meeting go?

Nate: It ended well, thanks to billy. But the tension between devon and me was pretty thick.

Elena: Did you guys disagree about something?

Nate: How much of our future plans we should reveal at the launch.

Elena: And was that something worth getting that worked up about?

Nate: Chancellor-winters needs to make the best first impression possible. It’s important.

Elena: I guess so, since you guys are disagreeing about it. But are things better now?

Nate: Yeah, yeah. I’d chalk it up to a one-time thing. But something similar did happen between us yesterday. Circumstances were different, but the vibe was the same.

Elena: So you really think there’s a problem developing between you and devon?

Nate: No, I wouldn’t go that far. It’s more like growing pains. At least I hope that’s all it is.

Elena: Yeah, I’m sure you’re probably right.

Nate: It’s got to be a difficult transition for devon. You know, one minute, you’re the boss of everybody and your opinion is the only one that matters, and then, all of a sudden, you have to share your decisions with not just lily but with billy and me, too.

Elena: I think you’re both just under a lot of pressure right now. And once things get settled, it’ll be fine.

Nate: You really think so?

Elena: I do. I mean, as well as you both know each other personally, you still have to find your footing on a professional level. And it’s not surprising to me that two brilliant, strong men would be clashing a bit.

Nate: Yeah, I guess you’re right.

Elena: You both were so excited to work together, and you both want chancellor-winters to succeed, so, I mean, that’s got to count for something.

Nate: That counts for a lot. But I didn’t come back expecting to talk about all this. I came back because I felt guilty about something, and i didn’t want to wait to make things right.

With less moderate-to-severe

eczema,

Elena: What’s — what’s going on? Did something happen?

Nate: Yeah, it kind of did, and I have no one to blame but myself.

Elena: [ Sighs ] Okay.

Nate: You know when we talked earlier about not having enough time to spend together?

Elena: Yes, and?

Nate: Well, I felt badly about my solution. A weekend date just doesn’t cut it. There’s not a lot we can do to carve out more time, especially since you don’t have the same flexibility with your schedule as I do with mine. So I realized that it’s up to me to work around your schedule. And being with you is at the top of my priority list.

Elena: Wow. I love you for thinking that way. And I love you for putting me at the top of your list. And I love you for coming here just to tell me that.

Nate: Mm. Well, that’s — that’s a whole lot of loving.

Elena: Yeah, it is. But I do think that our relationship deserves to be nurtured and tended to by the both of us. So even though I can’t always dictate my own schedule, there are other ways that I can show you how much I love you.

Billy: I have not changed my outlook, but I am thinking about other people, in particular jack, who’s going to have a different reaction to finding out that you could be a permanent resident of genoa city once again.

Diane: Jack has made his position perfectly clear. He’s not happy that I’m here, but he’s supportive of kyle’s wishes. Although he’s extremely skeptical of me.

Billy: Well, that’s my brother. He’s always protecting his son, as he should.

Diane: When we first met, jack wasn’t exactly what you’d call the reliable or paternal type. He’s come a long way since then. He’s become this really good man and a wonderful father. I admire that, and I’d like to try to live by his example, to be as good a mother as he is a father.

Billy: I understand the urge to compare yourself to someone else, but that is not gonna get you anywhere. You need to focus on being the best version of yourself you possibly can.

Diane: When did you become so wise?

Billy: Yeah, I am far from wise, but I’ve been through some things. And if I can help anyone, then that’s good with me.

Diane: Well, I hope your forgiving nature rubs off on your brother. Maybe you could put a good word in for me. No, no. I mean, unless you’re comfortable doing that.

Billy: [ Chuckles ] My family knows where I stand. I believe some people can change. I have to, or I wouldn’t be able to have faith in myself. And if redemption is possible for me, then it is possible for others. I’m not gonna change my tune, unless, of course, you give me a reason to.

Diane: Thanks. That’s all I can hope for.

Abby: Mmm. Well, not that I’m complaining, but what is this all about?

Chance: Mm. Caught a break in the case. Once the warrant comes through, we’ll make a move on this guy and lock him up. I tell you, I did everything by the book on this one. I’ll be glad to put it to rest.

Abby: One of rey’s cases?

Chance: I’m gonna close every single one he was working on. I know that’s what he would’ve done, so I’m gonna do the same.

Abby: I’m so proud of you. And I know rey is, too.

Nick: [ Sighs ] I am glad we did that.

Sharon: Me too. Time alone with cassie was just what I needed. I feel better. I feel ready to get back to work now.

Nick: Are you sure? You don’t want to take some more time off?

Sharon: No, I feel at peace. And a lot of that is thanks to you, nick. Once again, you’ve found a way to help me get through a rough patch.

Nick: Well, you do the same for me. That’s what family’s all about.

Recap written by Christine

Phyllis surprised Jack with a picnic in the park. She told him she was thinking of setting up some picnic specials for The Grand Phoenix. He said she obviously didn’t bring him here to get in sync, since they were in a very public place. She said he was under a lot of pressure these days with Jabot, and the she-devil, and she thought he deserved the finer things in life. She said they could celebrate the possibility of Summer, Harrison and Kyle moving back to town. He said would be risky for Jabot to buy Marchetti, and he couldn’t do that just for Summer and Kyle to move back.

Phyllis knew Jack wanted Kyle, Harrison and Summer to return, so she asked why he wasn’t working like hell to buy Marchetti. He said she was a businesswoman who knew you didn’t acquire a company to fill an emotional need. It had to make financial sense. He wasn’t sure it was right for Jabot to get back into the fashion business. She said it was the right move for Summer’s family. He felt that Summer and Kyle had made a home in Milan. He thought he owed it to everyone to step back and look at this from all angles. Phyllis didn’t care about Diane and Ashland – she just wanted her daughter home. She understood Jack had to do what was best for his family company and look at it from all angles, like he did with their relationship. Phyllis told Jack they’d celebrate their reunion and the possibility of their kids moving home.

Kyle and Summer went to Diane’s suite for a visit. She thought she’d be happier here at the GCAC where she wouldn’t have to worry about Phyllis lurking in the shadows. She intended no offense to Summer. Diane hoped that Summer was willing to make up her own mind about Diane. Summer was here to support Kyle. Summer saw the old photo of Kyle, Diane and Jack on the nightstand. Diane said that it was a tradition to unpack that first after every move. Kyle shared that he and Summer might be moving to Genoa City.

Diane was elated, but she wondered why the move might happen – would Summer be giving up her dream job? Kyle said that this was a mutual decision based on what would be best for both of their careers. Summer said this would be best for their families, then she clarified that she meant the Abbotts and the Newmans. Summer said the move was her idea, and she wouldn’t be giving up her dream job. Diane wanted to hear more, but Summer didn’t want to jinx it. Diane said she wanted to spend more time with them as long as they were in town. Summer asked if Diane didn’t have commitments at home in LA. Diane said she worked in real estate, so she was her own boss, so she was free to be here as long as Kyle wanted her to be, but she wouldn’t push. Victor called Summer, but she declined it. Kyle told Summer they should get going. Diane hoped everything worked out.

Michael was prepared to file a civil suit against Ashland. Victor wanted Ashland to be buried in subpoenas, but he didn’t want Victoria or the company to suffer. Michael said none of the cases would ever go to court, because Ashland was smart enough to realize what was happening and raise the white flag. Victor wondered why Summer didn’t answer her phone. Adam came up and asked if Victor knew when Victoria would return. Victor hoped she stayed on vacation for a long time. Adam smirked. “However many massages it takes to get her head back in the game,” he said. Victor told Adam not to criticize his sister. Adam said he wished Victoria the best. Victor said the longer Victoria was gone, the more time they’d have to send Ashland away. He mentioned that Ashland was using Harrison as an excuse to stay in town. Adam suggested they just ignore Ashland. Michael said they shouldn’t ignore a festering sore. Adam thought Michael was understandably angry with Ashland, but he asked if it was in the Newmans’ best interest to hold Ashland accountable after he took their deal. Michael said that Adam wanted to punish Victoria for his own benefit. Victor said he had a way to get Ashland out of town.

Summer met Victor, who was alone at Society. She missed being able to pop in and visit with family. She revealed that she and Kyle might move back. She bragged about Harrison speaking Italian and how cute he was and how excited he was that Victor was going to teach him to play chess. She told Victor not to spoil Harrison too much. Victor felt that was his privilege as the grandfather, and as far as he was concerned, Harrison was now as much a Newman as he was an Abbott. Summer’s smile faded and she said Ashland still considered himself Harrison’s father. That was why Victor called Summer here today. He said they needed to protect Harrison, and he asked her to tell Kyle not to let Harrison see Ashland anymore.

Summer loved and respected Victor, but she wasn’t sure about taking his advice to legally bar Ashland from Harrison. He said it was of the utmost importance that Ashland get out of town. Summer said it was her and Kyle’s job to protect Harrison. She thought they could handle Ashland. Victor said Kyle and Summer had good hearts, and Ashland would talk them into sharing custody. Summer said Kyle was ready to rip Ashland to shreds after they found out what he did to Victoria. She didn’t think it would be hard to keep Ashland out of Harrison’s life – Kyle was an upstanding member of the community who established his paternity, and Ashland was a liar and criminal, even though he’d never been charged with anything. She also thought it worked in their favor that Ashland let Harrison go to Milan. Summer said Harrison owned a huge piece of her heart. Victor asked if Summer would talk to Kyle about this. “I’ll make it happen,” Summer said.

Summer met with Kyle later at Society. He was making preparations to make an official presentation to Jack about buying Marchetti. He assumed Victor summoned her to talk about Diane. She explained that Victor thought they should legally restrict Locke from seeing Harrison. Victor had Michael on board to make it happen. Kyle didn’t want Ashland to have any influence over Harrison, but Harrison loved Ashland, and Kyle didn’t want to do anything that would affect Harrison down the road. Summer agreed that they needed to be sensitive to Harrison’s needs. She thought that removing Ashland might cause some confusion initially, but the older Harrison got, the harder this would be. She said Ashland was heartless, and they couldn’t allow him to be in Harrison’s life. They had to stop this – now.

Ashland met with his attorney at Crimson Lights. He asked her to review the custody agreement for Harrison and make sure that Kyle and Summer couldn’t keep him from spending time with Harrison. He wanted an answer ASAP, because the child meant everything to him. She said she’d be in touch. The lawyer left. Sharon walked up, and Ashland gave her his condolences about Rey. She told him to save his thoughts and prayers. She revealed that she knew about his 250 million dollar donation in Rey’s name. He said he was assured that donation would remain anonymous. “We both know that’s a load of crap!,” she snapped. She was glad that Rey’s name would live on and that Ashland’s would not. She blasted him for deceiving people and lying about having an illness that took numerous lives. She said when she confronted him about his lies a few weeks ago, he told her it was a smear campaign against him. He deeply regretted what he’d done. She said he had no idea what it was like to hear you had cancer. She fought back tears as she talked about her struggle with cancer. She’d been lucky to have people around her who helped her. She was haunted by what her illness did to the people she loved. “You put Victoria and Harrison through that on purpose. You were intentionally cruel to them,” she stated. She said that there was no amount of money that could make up for that. Noah came up to check on things, and Sharon walked away with him.

Sharon made Noah a drink. He wanted to go back over and deal with Ashland, but Sharon didn’t want to waste time on him. They talked about the photos from the Parisian honeymoon Mariah and Tessa were posting. The photos made Noah miss Europe, but he wasn’t going to move. He asked if Sharon was okay. She loved him, but she didn’t need his protection. Allie came in, and Noah teased her about crashing his sister’s wedding. She began to explain that Summer invited her, but Sharon assured her that Noah was just joking. Allie placed a drink and went out to the patio. Noah told Sharon he thought Allie was feeling overwhelmed with the new city and her new family. Sharon thought that was understandable.

Noah brought Allie her drink and had a seat. She said she was about to listen to her great uncle Billy’s podcast. That sounded weird for her, because she never had a great uncle before. Noah really liked the episode about feeling out of place. It was relatable to him. She was surprised because he seemed very secure, and she thought it was brave how he just put himself out there. He wondered if it was a compliment. She said it was just an observation. She also liked the podcast The Grinning Soul. Noah liked it too. Allie liked how that anonymous podcaster didn’t hold back. She wished she could do that. He said that he sketched when things were bothering him. He began to sketch, and she asked if something was bothering him right now. Noah told her about Ashland Locke. He said his mom was the strongest person he knew, so he wasn’t sure why he felt compelled to protect her. She said it was because he was a good son. She assumed everything was falling on his shoulders because her mom just lost her husband. He was sure Allie knew what it was like since she just lost her dad.

A new episode of The Grinning Soul dropped. Allie said she’d listen to it later. She was going to go on a run since she dind’t have a sketch pad to vent to. He said he’d doodle away his frustrations, and he added that Da Vinci doodled too. She laughed and asked if h Noah was comparing himself to Da Vinci.

Ashland went up to Sharon and said he was trying to make amends. She didn’t think he felt remorseful. He was sorry for her loss. Diane came in and overheard Sharon telling Ashland that it wasn’t possible for him to make amends and that she didn’t care to know him. Ashland walked past Diane and out the door.

Sharon went out to the patio with some free cookies for Allie. Noah took one. Sharon went back inside, and Allie said she was so kind and caring. Noah said Sharon was overflowing with love, even moreso these days, because she had a lot of love for Rey, and now she had nowhere to put it.

Diane bought a drink for herself and Ashland and she went to the park to find him. They ran into Phyllis and Jack. Phyllis grumbled about pests at the park. Diane guessed that Phyllis and Jack were celebrating Kyle and Summer’s return. Ashland looked intrigued. Jack said that was not public information or a foregone conclusion. Phyllis asked how Diane knew about this, and she said Summer told her. She was excited about the possibility of getting to know her son, daughter in law and grandson. She said his Dee-Dee was going to spoil him. Ashland was confused, and Diane said that she and Kyle decided Harrison would call her that. Ashland wanted to know how Harrison was. Jack said that the arrangement was being reevaluated, given Ashland’s actions. Phyllis stated that Jack was talking about Ashland faking cancer. Ashland said he took Jack’s advice and spoke to his attorney. Jack said that Kyle and Summer had to make the decisions about Harrison. Ashland said he had rights. He didn’t think things had to get acrimonious. Jack thought it was too late for that. He warned Diane that befriending Ashland wouldn’t help her campaign to show Genoa City a new and improved Dee-Dee.

Later, Ashland was alone in the park when Diane came up and said he’d made his fair share of enemies in this town. She overheard him and Sharon, and she knew there was tension between him, Summer and Kyle. He’d noticed she had her fair share of enemies too. She admitted she deserved a lot of the venom spewed her way, but rebuilding her relationship with Kyle was most important to her. He said he was afraid his actions would keep him from seeing his son. He noticed that she didn’t even flinch when he called Harrison his, even though she was Kyle’s mother. Diane said Harrison had two loving fathers, and he was a lucky boy. She asked what he’d done to become the most hated man in Genoa City. “Don’t limit me to Genoa City. I’m the most hated man wherever I go,” he replied, and she laughed. She was willing to share her dirty laundry if he did. He decided to do it, so he could control the narrative.

Ashland and Diane swapped stories off screen. He asked if she’d changed her mind about him being a good father. She felt she had no right to judge, since she’d just told him how she essentially abandoned her son. He marveled that the two of them were in the rare judgment-free zone. She said they were equally guilty and equally searching for redemption. He didn’t want a nasty legal battle with Harrison at the center. Harrison was the only source of joy in his life. Harrison looked at Ashland like he hung the moon. Ashland dreaded Harrison finding out something that would change his opinion of Ashland. Diane could relate. She and Kyle were close when he was a kid. At the time she thought she was protecting him. She knew that was wrong now. Seeing the conflict in Kyle’s eyes gutted her. The only good thing about being dead was that she didn’t witness the aftermath of tearing Kyle’s heart to shreds. Ashland wanted to stay in town so that Harrison would know Ashland would never turn his back on him. Ashland said to think about what Harrison would think if Ashland suddenly disappeared from his life. Diane said there was no easy solution for either of them, and if they stayed, they had to bear the arrows. Diane felt for Ashland, but she wasn’t going to do anything to jeopardize her chance at a reconciliation with Kyle, so she told Ashland that she couldn’t plead his case. He understood and said this was his battle, and whatever it cost, Harrison was worth it.

Jack and Phyllis went to the hotel, and Phyllis griped about Diane ruining their picnic. Jack said he had a great time, and he wasn’t going to let anyone ruin it. He wanted to go back to celebrating.
