Chloe: Hey Sally. Well, nothing was happening until you showed up, and I mean that on five different levels.

Sally: I’d like to take that as a good thing.

Chloe: Oh, it’s great.

Sally: What are you doing?

Chloe: Oh, I’m just having a business meeting with my partner. Can’t you see?

Sally: Is Chelsea late?

Chloe: Yeah, or possibly forgot the whole thing or just chose not to show up.

Sally: I see.

Chloe: Please, please sit down and join me.

Sally: Oh.

Chloe: Um, yeah, I just wanted to congratulate you on your new gig. Thank you. I mean, taking over as CEO at Newman Media — that is a big job. But I know you can do it.

Sally: Thanks, Chloe. Coming from you, that means a lot.

Victoria: handle the articles of incorporation. We need to be official if we’re gonna make an offer on the place.

Ashland: Agreed.

Victoria: Uh, also — oh, gosh — in order to file the paperwork, we’re gonna need a name, and we haven’t even thought of anything yet.

Ashland: Okay, how about “anything but Newman” incorporated?

Victoria: Ooh, catchy! But I think — honestly, I think we should leave our names out of it.

Ashland: I like “catchy.” How about Catchy Media?

Victoria: My goodness. I thought you would be better at this. Your previous corporation was named after a 3,000-year-old Babylonian king.

Ashland: Excuse me. I had months to come up with that, not five minutes.

Victoria: Okay, fine. What was that phrase that you used about the building?

Ashland: “Save millions.”

Victoria: [Laughs] No. “Hand of destiny.”

Ashland: “Destiny.” Destiny Media. I love that. And I love you.

Phyllis: Hey Derek, can you do me a favor? Um, and get housekeeping on this right away. Half a bottle of wine and dirty glasses are outside my suite. I don’t want it there. Hard night for someone. I don’t know who left it there. I don’t know. I don’t know. But could you get rid of it? Thanks.

Amanda: Well, hello. So, you run out of town, you leave us in the lurch for the Chancellor-Winters launch party, and then, worst of all, you don’t call, you don’t text.

Phyllis: I know. I’m the worst. Hi.

Amanda: Welcome home.

Phyllis: Aww, thank you. Thank you

Summer: Mom?

Phyllis: I’m okay.

Summer: No, you’re not.

Phyllis: Yeah, I’m fine Summer. I’m fine. You know what? I want to ask you a question. The job you offered me at Marchetti — is that the same one that Diane’s doing?

Summer: Mom, no, not even close. I wanted you to be my head of marketing. What we offered Diane is a junior-level P.R. Gig. Look, it was Kyle’s idea, and i only agreed to it because I’m here to support Kyle, just like you are here to support me, right?

Phyllis: Yeah. Right. I will support you. I will support you because i love you. Yeah.

Summer: I love you, too.

Victoria: You deserve an explanation.

Billy: I agree. Thank you.

Victoria: And, honestly, i think that you deserve the truth, as well. The truth is that I had no intention of reconciling with Ashland at all.

Billy: Well, I was hoping that was the case, but why didn’t you just tell me the plan? You know that you can trust me.

Victoria: Is it really a mystery why I wouldn’t want “the grinning soul” to do an entire podcast on clever women who flip the script on their devious and manipulative husbands?

Billy: I’m glad that you are safe and sound and single. You are single, aren’t you?

Victoria: That’s right. I want nothing more to do with Ashland.

****************************

Ashland: Yeah. No, no, no. No need. We’ve had many successes in the past. Peru is not one of them, but you can’t knock it out of the park every time, can you? Although I did think the task was relatively simple — to keep Michael Baldwin down there, to get him thrown in jail, keep him there while I control the narrative here. But it was not meant to be. I still don’t quite understand what went wrong. Perhaps there was some unforeseen exigencies we hadn’t planned for. Or maybe he’s just smarter than we are. I don’t know.

Stannis: I —

Ashland: As I said, no need to explain. But this job I’m offering you right here and right now… will give you a chance to redeem yourself.

Stannis: I assume the target is still Michael Baldwin?

Ashland: Oh, god, no. Let’s not bite off more than we can chew. I can’t expect you to keep up with a wily, third-rate lawyer. No, no, no. This time, the target will be much more manageable, hmm?

[ Knock on door ]

Billy: Is this a good time?

Victoria: And if it wasn’t, would you turn around and walk out or come in anyway and subject me to whatever’s on your mind?

Billy: Even if you’re busy, I’m not going anywhere ’cause i am dying to find out what is going on.

Victoria: What do you mean?

Billy: Okay. Well, the last time we did this face-to-face, you told me that you were abandoning your job and your family to start a new life with ashland locke.

Victoria: I remember.

Billy: And now you’re here, alone, in your office, and seemingly very happy about it.

Victoria: Do you have a problem with that?

Billy: Oh, no. Absolutely not. I am thrilled that you’re not with that fraud anymore, but i do want to know — how did you get from point a to point b?

Victoria: Well, look, I guess you do deserve an explanation.

[ Knock on door ]

Ashland: [ Groans ] Stannis! Come in. Glad to see you’ve recovered so well from your trip to south america.

Stannis: About that job in peru —

[ Bottle slams ] My wife.

Nikki: I am just so relieved that victoria is back and has cut all ties with ashland. I really was worried that she had walked away from us forever. I supposed I should have had more faith in her.

Nick: Well, let’s not let her off the hook entirely. I mean, she was pretty convincing when she was talking about how in love she was with ashland and how she was willing to sacrifice everything to be with him. Now that we know the whole story, it’s easy to understand why she was acting the way she was, but it was pretty cruel for her to put us through that, especially you.

Nikki: Well, I’ll tell you, if a few sleepless nights was the price we had to pay to get rid of him, it was well worth it.

Nick: [ Chuckles ]

Nikki: Now we can focus on the future.

Nick: To better days.

Nikki: Better days. Speaking of, what do you think about victoria’s job offer? I mean, even before she made it, your father had mentioned to me that he sensed that you might be perhaps interested in coming back to newman enterprises. Is that true?

Victor: I want to know what you were thinking storming out of that meeting with your siblings. It was totally inappropriate.

Adam: Well, perhaps it was, but, uh, at least it was an honest expression of how I was feeling.

Victor: Son, I don’t give a damn whether it was an honest expression or not. It was inappropriate. Your sister just came back.

Adam: [ Chuckles ]

Victor: She defeated ashland locke. She brought back $250 million of the $500 million that I paid that bastard to get out of town. She ought to be applauded, what she did.

Adam: Are you kidding me right now?

Victor: What do you mean, am I kidding you right now?

provided by… my blood pressure is borderline.

Nick: I don’t know how real vick’s job offer was. I think it was more of a gesture of goodwill.

Nikki: Oh, that’s not the impression I got.

Nick: Before the family meeting, she told me how much she appreciated that I stood by her, even though I didn’t agree with what she was doing. I just think that, you know, it meant a lot to her.

Nikki: Well, of course it did. It meant a lot to me, too. Now just knowing the two of you are close again — that’s what every mother hopes for.

Nick: Well, I will always support my sister, no matter what, even though at times she can be extremely exasperating. Vick just needs people around her that she feels like she can trust, and she doesn’t have a lot of that. And I think that’s where the job offer came from. I’m trying not to read too much into it.

Nikki: Well, I think you should. And victoria has never let sentiment get into the way of how she runs the company. I think she appreciates you for your judgment and your business instincts.

Nick: So, you think I should take the job?

Nikki: You have to do what makes you happy. But I do know your father would be thrilled to see you and victoria working together again.

Adam: If I’m less than thrilled about victoria’s return, it’s because I can feel the ground crumbling under my feet.

Victor: Son, you must know that I would never have gone to the press to announce that you were the new ceo of newman enterprises had I known that she would be back in a week. You believe that, don’t you?

Adam: I-I believe you.

Victor: Okay.

Adam: But that means she played you, too. She used you as a pawn in her plan, okay? She knew you were gonna make that announcement. It was almost like proof to locke that she was truly exiled from the family.

Victor: Don’t you understand that she did what she thought she had to do?

Adam: Look, I — I appreciate that you gave me a chance, but i know that you were hoping she would return, okay? We discussed this.

Victor: But wait a minute, son. Yes, we discussed it, and you agreed to live with that possibility.

Adam: Yeah. I just wish that you had given me a little more time to show you what I am capable of, okay? I have a lot of great ideas. And I don’t get bogged down by my wreck of a personal life like victoria does.

Victor: Slow down. Slow down. Slow down. Implicit in what you just said is a criticism of victoria. I don’t like that anymore. I want you guys to work together. You’re very capable. You have wonderful suggestions. You’re very bright. You know that. But I want you to use your abilities and your suggestions to support victoria as ceo of the company, not to undermine her. I want you to work together as a family, not like gladiators in a damn ring.

Victoria: My biggest gamble was telling nicholas that ashland I were meeting with investors.

Billy: You had to trust him to make sure that no one would invest in the venture.

Victoria: Exactly. Everything hinged on nick telling my father everything. Either that, or he would have to read between the lines and know that that’s what I wanted him to do. Or go into overprotective, patronizing mode.

Billy: I hope for your sake it was the former.

Victoria: Well, honestly, i don’t care at this point. All that matters is that everything went exactly as i planned.

Billy: Brilliant.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: It took brains and courage to set a successful trap for ashland.

Victoria: And once he walked into it, I had the jet bring me back here.

Billy: So, that $250 million — that was the remainder of the money that your father gave him?

Victoria: That’s right.

Billy: And he handed that over, no questions asked?

Victoria: Not at all.

Billy: Wow. That’s fantastic.

Victoria: I didn’t know that you were so concerned about my father’s money. That is so sweet of you.

Billy: Oh, believe me, I do not care whose money it is. I just don’t want it lining ashland locke’s pockets. He should not be rewarded for this dangerous behavior. But I am very surprised that your father gave him $500 million.

Victoria: Ashland did donate half of that to nick’s charity.

Billy: Aww, that’s very sweet of him. He’s quite the humanitarian, isn’t he? You know what the worst part about this half a billion dollars was for you?

Victoria: What?

Billy: Adam. He was gonna hang that over your head forever. I can hear him now — “victoria, how dare you fall in love with a con man and cost our family a fortune?”

Victoria: Well, he could have said that all he wanted. The fact of the matter is he’s the one who initiated the deal.

Billy: That’s probably the exact reason why he made the offer, isn’t it?

Victoria: You know, I was thinking the same thing. Adam didn’t make this deal with ashland because he cared about the family. He did it because he was thinking about himself and he wanted to highlight my mistakes. But you know what? It doesn’t matter. The money came back to the newman family, the ledger is balanced, and I made everything right again.

Billy: You did it. You really did. Now you can move on from this whole situation and forget about ashland locke for good.

Victoria: That’s the plan.

Ashland: My own movements in genoa city will be limited. I will be keeping a low profile, so I will need you to be my eyes and ears where the newmans are concerned. Now, victor and adam newman have both been thorns in my side, so any information you can come up about them would be much appreciated.

Stannis: Got it. I’ll keep you updated.

Ashland: Excellent. Of course, victoria newman will be your primary target.

Stannis: You want me to tail her, keep track of her whereabouts.

Ashland: Yes. Good for you. I realize this is beneath your prodigious skill set, but after what happened in peru, we really should make sure you can walk before we try to run, yes?

Stannis: Of course.

Ashland: Yeah. So, I need to know where she goes, who she talks to, what she does. I need every single detail. If she buys a pack of gum, i want to know what flavor. Do you understand? Excellent. Keep me posted on the hour.

[ Door closes ] Hi, I’m denise.

Billy: [ Sighs ] I am so relieved, I can’t even explain the feeling that I have right now.

Victoria: Because of your limited vocabulary?

Billy: No. ‘Cause I’m overwhelmed. I honestly thought that you were making a life-changing mistake. And right now I am just so happy that ashland locke will not be a part of our kids’ lives.

Victoria: Billy, I apologize for misleading you, but I never had any intention of allowing ashland near johnny and katie ever again.

Billy: You’re not as fragile as I thought you were.

Victoria: Ugh! I’ve been telling you for years I’m not a delicate flower.

Billy: And I should have listened. I’m sure you told your family the same thing, and I’m sure they are thrilled to have you back.

Victoria: They’re adjusting to the abrupt changes, but I get the sense that everybody’s happy that things are back to the way that they should be. Aside from adam. I kind of get the sense from him that he’s disappointed that he won’t be running newman enterprises after all.

Billy: Now, that is a shame.

Nick: You know why I stayed away from the company all these years?

Nikki: Why?

Nick: I don’t like wearing suits.

Nikki: Well, that cannot possibly be true because you look so dashing in a suit.

Nick: Oh, thanks, mom. But you know what it’s like there. I mean, there’s always so much turmoil around newman enterprises. Dad feels like he needs to control every single thing that goes on in that tower. And whether it’s intentional or not, he’s created all these rivalries with vick and adam and me, and it’s crazy.

Nikki: Well, that could change.

Nick: I don’t see that happening. I just saw adam storm out of the office because dad finally gives him the job he wants — he got the big chair — and now it looks like he’s gonna have to relinquish it. I can’t even blame him for being angry.

Nikki: Well, I guess I can’t, either. I told your father that he should be ready for this possibility. I didn’t think it would happen quite so soon.

Nick: None of us did.

Nikki: [ Sis ] He knows what a minefield it is to have adam and victoria working at the company.

Nick: He can’t seem to resist pitting them against each other.

Nikki: But it’s not always on purpose. He is very concerned about their relationship.

Nick: Well, mom, he can be concerned all he wants, but this is his M.O. — To have them on opposite sides. And why would I want to subject myself to that by going into that building every day?

Nikki: It would mean a lot to your father and to your sister.

Nick: [ Sighs ] I got a great life, you know? I like what I do. I have a lot of free time. Why would I want to give all that up to go back to work at newman?

Nikki: I can’t say. But it’s obvious you’ve given it a lot of thought.

Victor: Son, listen to me. It’s time that we pull together as a family, just as we did when we got rid of ashland locke. We all did our part. And then victoria delivered the final blow. She ought to be applauded for that.

Adam: Even though she deceived us all? She manipulated us, all of us. Should she be applauded for that, too?

Victor: I understand your frustration. I really do. But just remember when this was all reversed. You grew up on a farm in kansas. You went to harvard business school. You worked on wall street. You came back into this family. They didn’t know you, did they? You were an enormous threat to them. I welcomed you. I supported you. And you know I got a lot of flak from your siblings for that.

Adam: Yeah. Well, the difference is I’m still paying for my old mistakes. I mean, nothing that I’ve done to redeem myself has made a difference to them, dad. And probably nothing ever will.

Victor: Son, give it time. I think you and nicholas are moving closer to each other, aren’t you?

Adam: Yeah. I only had to give up one of my kidneys to save his daughter’s life to get there.

Victor: And that was much appreciated, okay? That was an extraordinary gesture that no one has forgotten, alright? Now, victoria will get over this.

Adam: Dad, she doesn’t trust me.

Victor: Well, son, she cannot deny the success you had at newman media. If the three of you sat together in an office —

Adam: Wait. The three of us?

Victor: Yes.

Adam: What do you mean by that?

Victor: While you stormed out of the office, victoria extended an invitation to nicholas to join the company.

Adam: In what capacity?

Victor: They didn’t discuss specifics.

Adam: [ Sighs ]

[ Clears throat ] What did nick say?

Victor: Hasn’t given a clear answer yet, but I’m hopeful. Listen to me. If the three of you can put your brains together and work together, this would become such a formidable company. Don’t you see that?

Adam: Well, I can’t argue with that. Are you tired of clean clothes that just don’t smell clean?

Chloe: Wow. Is — is that connor?

Chelsea: That’s him.

Chloe: He is getting so big.

Chelsea: He really is. I feel like just yesterday he was learning how to walk. He wasn’t any taller than my knee, and now he’s this soccer-playing giant.

Chloe: What are you feeding that kid?

Chelsea: Mostly pizza. Thank you for, uh, coming to talk to me. You didn’t have to after i snapped at you like that. I-I feel really bad.

Chloe: I know that you have been overwhelmed. You know, you’ve been under a lot of pressure, and that’s why I was advising against you taking on something big like marchetti. I wasn’t criticizing. I was just looking out for you.

Chelsea: I know. You always have my best interests at heart. But ironically, I think that’s why I feel so much pressure.

Chloe: What do you mean?

Chelsea: I feel like I owe so much. I mean, I’m obligated to you. You created this new fashion platform at newman. You gave me a place to land. You agreed to work with adam.

[ Chuckles ] You kept the peace between me and sally when victoria dropped the fashion brand. You went to lauren and created this new deal with fenmore’S. I just feel like you create all these amazing opportunities for me, and my biggest fear is i won’t be able to live up to my end of the bargain. You know, I don’t want to let you down.

Chloe: Chelsea, you could never do that.

Chelsea: Don’t be so sure. Because I made a decision.

[ Sighs ] I’m sorry, chloe, but we need to dissolve our partnership.

Nick: Thank you. You’re right. I have thought about it a lot. If I took a role in the company, I’d have a lot more say in family matters.

Nikki: Well, there have been other times when your father or victoria have tried to lure you back and you weren’t receptive. So, what’s different now?

Nick: A big part of my interest is my concern for you.

Nikki: Me?

Nick: Yeah, mom. You’re constantly in the middle of all these skirmishes. You have to tamp down all these conflicts between dad and vick, and dad and adam, and vick and adam. I mean, that’s got to take its toll on you.

Nikki: Yeah. It does. But I wouldn’t want to see you step away from new hope just for that. Believe me, I can find other ways to stay out of the fray, especially now that this crisis is over.

Nick: Well, I’m sure there’s another one right around the corner.

Nikki: I don’t know. I think things are gonna calm down for a while.

Nick: Yeah, but these lulls — they’re temporary. And I’m telling you, there’s no way ashland is gonna take this lying down. And if I’m wrong about that, this tension between adam and victoria is just gonna keep growing and growing. And it’s gonna lead to a serious problem unless somebody diffuses it. You don’t agree with me?

Nikki: I just like seeing you like this.

Nick: Like what?

Nikki: Thoughtful, loving, protective. A born leader.

Billy: When I went to summer camp as a kid, we didn’t have weekly video chats. We barely talked to our parents. That was the point. But now that I’m on the other side, I can’t wait to hear all their little stories.

Victoria: How did katie’s swim test go? I know she was really nervous about that.

Billy: She did great. She nailed it.

Victoria: Really?

Billy: Yes.

Victoria: Even the sidestroke?

Billy: Absolutely. She can’t wait to tell you about it. We do have a little problem, though. I think johnny has a crush on his counselor, and she’s 96.

Victoria: Oh, I can’t wait to hear all about that.

Billy: Mm-hmm. I have a time slot later on after dinner. You can take it if you’d like to talk to him.

Victoria: I’d love that. Thank you.

Billy: You’re welcome.

Victor: Well, I’ll be damned. If it isn’t billy boy abbott here. What are you doing here?

Billy: Oh, I’m just part of the welcome wagon. I’m sure you’re thrilled to have your daughter back.

Victor: I am, indeed, okay? Now, I need to discuss a few things with her, if you don’t mind.

Billy: Ahh. And just like that, it’s like the band’s back together. It feels like old times again. I’m not even upset that you only pretended to get out of your father’s influence.

Victor: Just for your information, old boy, victoria will never leave her family, alright? However, she has become an expert at getting rid of her toxic exes.

Victoria: Oh, by the way, thank you so much for filling me in on the kids. I really appreciate that.

Victor: By the way, how are johnny and katie?

Billy: They’re great. A couple mosquito bites, a small little battle with poison oak. Please thank your better half for sending that care package she did last week.

Victor: I shall do that.

Billy: The best part of all of this is that when they come home from camp, ashland locke will not be part of their lives.

Victor: Now, that we agree on, alright? Okay. What the hell is that idiot doing here? For heaven’s sake. Nice to come back in here and see you hard at work and only to find billy boy abbott here.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Well, like he said, it’s just like old times.

Victor: [ Sighs ] I’ve been looking at the fourth-quarter projections of our european holdings, and i think it’s about time we get rid of them.

Victoria: Daddy, um, before we dive back into work, I think that we just need to put… just everything on the table. So please be honest with me.

Victor: About what?

Victoria: How upset are you with me really?

Victor: [ Breathes deeply ] Kids can change minds…

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Victor: Before I answer your question, I have one of my own. How much did billy boy know about your plan to get revenge on ashland locke?

Victoria: Daddy, I didn’t tell him anything, nothing at all. In fact, he was furious with me. He threatened legal action. He didn’t want ashland anywhere near the kids. I’m just glad that he knows now that it’s something that I had to do.

Victor: Well, I’m very glad he didn’t know anything before because he would have blabbered about it on his sad podcast, okay? And your plan would have been ruined.

Victoria: I said the same thing to him. I think you and I really do think alike.

Victor: Why didn’t you confide in me? You know I wouldn’t betray your trust.

Victoria: No, dad, I know that. I do, but I didn’t want to put you in a position where you had to lie to mom.

Victor: Oh. Okay, that makes sense. I understand now.

Victoria: Plus, if I had told you, there’s a chance you wouldn’t have held that press conference announcing adam as ceo.

Victor: Was that helpful?

Victoria: Yes, daddy, it was instrumental. I needed ashland to see that and believe that the ties with my family had been irrevocably broken.

Victor: Now, what if nicholas hadn’t come to me and told me about your — your plan, I mean, that you were gonna meet investors? This was very risky.

Victoria: Yes. I know. It was risky. It was. But I had everything to gain, and I had nothing to lose. Unless…

Victor: Unless what?

Victoria: Unless…

[ Sighs ] I mean, do I still have my job? Or is adam now ceo?

Victor: You handled this whole thing so well. You had a plan. You executed it. You took revenge on ashland locke. Taught him a lesson he will never forget — no one threatens the newmans and gets away with it. No one. Now… I’m very proud of the way you handled it all. I’m proud of you. I’m proud of your ability to run this company. You have proven yourself in the past. You’re very capable and very strong. That answer your question?

Victoria: Yes. It does. Thank you so much for your confidence in me. I appreciate it.

[ Breathes deeply ] Now, for my first order of business, I would like to get nicholas to accept the job offer. Do you have a sense of whether he will be joining the company?

Victor: I have no clue. I mean, uh… I don’t know which way he’s leaning.

Victoria: Well, what do you think? Do you think I have a shot at bringing him here?

Victor: If anyone has a shot, I think you do.

Nikki: I have bounced back and forth between coo and co-ceo a lot lately, so if you are interested, one of those two positions would be available.

Nick: I don’t think that’s what victoria meant when she made the job offer. I think she was thinking more, you know, smaller, like an advisory role.

Nikki: Oh, no, I don’t think so. I think there’s a reason that she left it open-ended — so that you can decide where you want to fit in the organization. I mean, both the family and the company needs somebody who is grounded, who is not afraid to walk away if the price of power is too high.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] I think you’re overestimating what i bring to the table, mom.

Nikki: No. I don’T. I think you have a unique vantage point because you understand what victoria and adam are going through.

Nick: Yeah. I guess. I have fallen into the same traps.

Nikki: But you grew out of needing your father’s approval because you have the confidence in knowing that you can be a success without him, and that is very valuable to the company. I mean, you could be the moral compass.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] Well, it’s not really how I see myself, but sharon said something very similar to that to me recently. She thinks I could provide some balance.

Nikki: Well, I hope that you will consider it.

Nick: Well, no matter what i decide, you have given me a lot to think about, mom.

Chloe: You don’t want to work with me anymore? I feel like that’s a bit of an overreaction to the issues that we’re having.

Chelsea: But it’s not. It’s actually the only solution because you were right.

Chloe: About what?

Chelsea: About everything.

[ Sighs ] I’m distracted. I’ve been missing deadlines. I’ve spread myself too thin.

Chloe: I could help you come up with a plan to get caught up on that.

Chelsea: It’s really sweet of you to offer. But the truth is, I’m not emotionally prepared to throw myself into launching this business. And I didn’t want to admit it to myself that I wasn’t ready. I didn’t want to admit it to my best friend, who’s poured everything into making this work. I mean, you put your heart and soul into this line. But…the longer I pretend, the more defensive I get and the more damage I will cause our friendship.

[ Sighs ] I’m really sorry, chloe. Can you ever forgive me?

Chloe: I would just hate for you to give up on your dreams.

Chelsea: But that’s not what this is. I think I’ve just — I’ve think I’ve been trying to make everyone else happy for so long, you know, be the old version of myself. And maybe I’ll get there eventually. Or maybe I’ll go in a different direction entirely. I just know I don’t have it in me to give this business my full focus, and that’s what it requires right now. Are you furious with me?

Chloe: No. No. I am not. I… I’ve been really worried about you. I knew something was wrong, and if this is what you need to do to take care of yourself, then i support you 100%.

Chelsea: Thank you.

Chloe: So, do you want me to relay the news to lauren and summer?

Chelsea: That’s okay. I have a meeting on the books with lauren. I will tell her, I will void the deal with fenmore’s, and then i will let summer and kyle know i am turning down the marchetti deal.

Chloe: Well, I think they’ll appreciate hearing from you.

Chelsea: You sure you’re not upset with me? I know how excited you were to get up and running.

Chloe: I’m not angry. A little brokenhearted, yes. But I think it’s better to lose the business partnership than to lose our friendship. And till now, I think that that’s where we were headed. And thank you for having the guts to face what you’re going through — and for being honest with me.

Chelsea: Well, thank you for being so understanding. And, you know, I would not have made this decision, except i knew that you were gonna be in high demand. Everyone’s gonna be dying to work with you, with your skill set. I mean, do you know what you want to do next or…?

Chloe: I have some ideas.

Chelsea: Could I help in any way? I’ll be glad to make some calls for you.

Chloe: No, no, no. Don’t worry about me. I’ll figure something out.

Victor: You know that I’ve always hoped that nicholas will join the company. If you had asked me a few weeks ago if he were inclined to do so, I would have said there’s not a chance in hell. But I think things are different now.

Victoria: How?

Victor: Seems to me he’s prioritizing his family more than he has in a long, long time. A telling sign was that he came to me to warn me of your plan to meet with investors. He was willing to risk your anger to help you, to help the family.

Victoria: I know.

Victor: You know that I’ve always impressed upon you kids that loyalty within a family is the most important part. And I think what he did is exemplary of that loyalty, okay? He knows what’s good for the family now.

Victoria: Well, I haven’t always appreciated nick’s brand of loyalty, but I do intend to make up for that now.

Victor: Now, along those same lines, I hope that you will show some appreciation for adam and what he can contribute.

Victoria: Yes. Well, that’s something to think about. Do you expect that adam will hang around?

Victor: Well, let me ask you. Do you think he will just walk away?

Billy: You know, come to think of it, I was never able to buy you that celebratory drink for your new position as ceo. Now, with victoria back in town, unfortunately for you, you will no longer be in charge.

Adam: Oh, go to hell, billy.

Billy: Did you even get a chance to unpack? Or does the nameplate on the office door just keep revolving?

Adam: Are you enjoying yourself?

Billy: Yes. Immensely. Let me ask you one more question — because I’ve lost count. How many times is it now that your father’s given you the hook?

Adam: Don’t you have a dark room to go sit in?

Billy: [ Chuckles ]

Adam: So you can record your little pathetic ramblings for your podcast?

Billy: Got to give it to victoria. I mean, she crushed it. Not only did she get rid of locke, but she got all the money back and she sent you packing. That right there is a true trifecta.

Chloe: Sally. It’s chloe. I’ve been giving your offer a lot of thought, and I was hoping we could get together and discuss it further.

Victoria: Dad, please don’t make me feel guilty a– about not being enthusiastic to work with adam. Clearly, he feels the same way about me, given the way that he stormed out of the family meeting. I mean, he can’t even stand to be in the same room with me. That doesn’t exactly make for a healthy working relationship.

Victor: Sweetheart, don’t you understand that he’s very frustrated right now?

Victoria: Look, I get it. I get it. I understand where he’s coming from. He feels entitled to run the company, never mind the fact that he hasn’t integrated chanccomm and newman media. That’s a work in progress, but he just wants to wash his hands of the whole thing and move on to bigger and better things.

Victor: I think it is in your best interest to take what he has to say seriously, alright?

Victoria: Of course. I’m always willing to listen, but I’m not gonna be a fool and let my guard down. I’m not gonna do that. Adam is constantly trying to undermine me.

Victor: I made it very clear to him that it is in his best interest to remain loyal.

Victoria: Do you really think he cares about that?

Victor: Sweetheart… he has been working very hard to be accepted by this family. He is not gonna do anything to jeopardize that.

Billy: Have you broken the news to sally yet, that she’s about to get demoted so you can take your old job back? Might be trouble in paradise. She might feel like she bet on the wrong horse.

Adam: I notice you’re using a lot of gambling phrases today, billy. Are you reverting back to your old ways?

Billy: [ Chuckles ] Oh, buddy, you can’t distract me today. Nope. I get to sit back and watch you fail spectacularly. You lose your big job, possibly your girl, and that little bit of respect that victor had for you.

Adam: Oh, boy, it must be the happiest day of your life.

Billy: It’s pretty up there. It stings, doesn’t it? Your plan to get rid of locke cost you half a billion dollars, and it didn’t work. You needed your sister to come in and clean things up for you. You must be in a world of hurt, with your back up against the wall.

Adam: That’s right. I do. But you of all people should know that’s when I’m most dangerous.

Recap written by Christine

Victor showed up at Society to scold Adam for storming off in the middle of the meeting with his siblings. Adam said it was an honest expression of how he felt. Victor didn’t give a damn if it was honest – it was inappropriate. “Your sister just came back. She defeated Ashland Locke. She brought back 250 million of the 500 million that I paid that bastard to get out of town. She ought to be applauded,” Victor contended. “If I am less than thrilled about Victoria’s return, it’s because I can feel the ground crumbling under my feet,” Adam admitted. Victor said he never would’ve gone to the press and announced Adam as new CEO if he’d known Victoria would be back in a week. Adam believed that, but he said it meant Victoria used Victor as a pawn in her plan. Adam said Victoria knew that Victor would make that announcement – it was almost like proof to Locke that she’d been exiled from the family. Victor stated that Victoria did what she thought she had to do. Adam appreciated Victor giving him a chance, but he knew Victor had hoped Victoria would return. “I just wish that you had given me a little more time to show you what I am capable of.” Adam felt he had a lot of great ideas, and he didn’t get bogged down by his wreck of a personal life, like Victoria did. Victor told Adam to stop criticizing his sister. Victor thought that Adam was very bright and capable, and he wanted him to use his talents to support Victoria as CEO. Victor didn’t want Adam undermining Victoria. He wanted his children to work together as a family, not act like gladiators in a ring.

Victor said that they needed to pull together as a family, like they did when they fought Ashland. He reiterated that Victoria should be applauded for delivering the final blow. Adam said Victoria deceived and manipulated them all. Victor understood Adam’s frustration, but he said there was a time things were all reversed. Victor said Adam grew up on a farm in Kansas, he went to Harvard and worked on Wall Street. When Adam came back to the family, they didn’t know him. Victor said Adam’s siblings considered him a threat, but Victor welcomed Adam and supported him. Adam said he was still paying for his own mistakes – nothing he did to redeem himself made a difference to his siblings, and nothing probably ever would. Victor urged Adam to give it time. He thought Adam and Nick were getting closer. Adam grumbled that all it cost him was one of his kidneys. Victor said no one had forgotten Adam’s extraordinary act. Adam said Victoria didn’t trust him. Victor said Victoria couldn’t deny Adam’s success at Newman Media. Victor wanted the three of them to sit down together. Adam asked who the three people were. Victor said that Victoria asked Nick to join the company. Adam was caught off guard. Victor thought that if Victoria, Nick and Adam worked together, they could make Newman a formidable company. Adam grudgingly admitted that was true.

Victoria was alone in the CEO’s office when Billy dropped in to find out what was going on. He was thrilled she wasn’t with that fraud, Ashland anymore, but he wanted to know how Victoria went from moving away with Ashland and quitting her job to being back in her office again. Victoria felt Billy deserved the truth, so she revealed that she never actually planned to reconcile with Ashland. Billy had hoped that was the case, but he wondered why she didn’t trust him with her plan. She said she didn’t want “The Grinning Soul” to do an entire podcast on clever women who flipped the script on their devious husbands. He was glad she was safe, sound and he hoped she was single. She said that was right – she wanted nothing to do with Ashland.

Victoria explained that her biggest gamble was telling Nick that she and Ashland were looking for investors. Billy understood Victoria had to trust Nick to make sure no one invested in the company. She stated that her plan hinged on Nick telling Victor everything. She said that Nick had to read between the lines and know that was what she wanted him to do, or he’d have to go into overprotective patronizing mode. Billy hoped it was the former. Victoria didn’t care why Nick did it at this point, since all that mattered was that everything went exactly as she planned. Billy said it took brains and courage to set this trap for Ashland. He thought it was fantastic that she got Victor’s 250 million dollars back. She didn’t know he cared so much about her father’s wallet. He didn’t care about that – he was just glad that Ashland didn’t have that money anymore. He was surprised Victor gave Ashland 500 million dollars. Victoria noted that Ashland gave half of it to Nick’s charity. Billy assumed that Adam had planned to hold the money over Victoria’s head and chide her for falling in love with a conman and costing the family a fortune. “Adam didn’t make this deal with Ashland because he cared about the family. He did it because he was thinking about himself. He wanted to highlight my mistakes,” Victoria asserted. She said it didn’t matter though because the money was back in the family, and she’d made everything right again. Billy said Victoria could move on and forget about Ashland for good.

Billy couldn’t explain the way he felt. “Because of your limited vocabulary?,” Victoria asked. He said he was overwhelmed with happiness that Ashland wouldn’t be part of the kids lives. She apologized for misleading him. She’d never had any intention of letting Ashland around the kids. He realized she wasn’t as fragile as she thought she was. She groaned and said she’d told him for years that she was no delicate flower. He said he should’ve listened. He was sure her family was happy. She thought everyone was happy except Adam, who was disappointed he wouldn’t be running Newman. Billy and Victoria’s kids were at camp, and he’d video chatted with them recently. She asked how Katie’s swim test went. She knew their daughter had been nervous about it. He said Katie nailed it and she couldn’t wait to tell Victoria about it. Johnny had a crush on his counselor, who was 96, according to Billy. Victor showed up wanting to talk to Victoria. Billy told Victoria he wasn’t upset that she only pretended to get out from under her father’s influence. Victor said Victoria would never leave her family, though she’d become an expert at getting rid of her toxic exes. Victoria thanked Billy for the update on the kids. Victor asked Billy how the kids were, and he said they were fine. He said to thank Nikki for sending the kids a care package. Victor said he’d pass it along. Billy said the best part was when the kids came home from camp, Ashalnd wouldn’t be part of their lives. Victor agreed, and Billy left.

Victor asked Victoria what that idiot had been doing here. Victor was there to discuss work, but Victoria wanted to know how upset he was with her. Before he’d answer, he asked how much Billy knew about the plan to get rid of Ashland. She said she’d kept Billy in the dark, and he’d even threatened her with legal action over the kids. She was just glad Billy knew the truth now. Victor was very glad that Billy didn’t know before, because he would’ve blabbed about it on his sad podcast. Victoria mentioned that she said the same thing to Billy. She noted that she and Victor thought alike. He asked why she didn’t confide in him. She said she didn’t want to put him in a position of having to lie to Nikki. He conceded her point. She said if she’d told him, he might not have held that press conference announcing Adam as CEO. He asked if that was helpful, and she said it was instrumental in convincing Ashland that her ties with her family was irrevocably broken. He asked what if Nick didn’t tell her about her plan to find investors. He said her plan was risky. She said it was risky, but she had everything to gain, and nothing to lose – unless she’d been fired in favor of Adam. Victor felt Victoria handled this whole thing very well. He said she took revenge on Ashland Locke and taught him a lesson he’d never forget – that no one threatened the Newmans and got away with it. He was very proud of her and of her ability to run the company. He said she was capable and strong, and he asked if that answered her question. It did. She thanked him for her confidence in her. She asked if he thought Nick would join the company. He didn’t know, but he thought if anyone had a shot at bringing Nick in, it was her.

Victor said that Nick seemed more inclined to join the business. He felt that Nick had prioritized the family more than he had in a long time. A telling sign was that Nick came to him to tell him about Victoria’s plan to get investors. Victor said he’d always impressed the importance of loyalty onto the kids, and he thought Nick’s act exemplified that loyalty. Victoria said she hadn’t always appreciated Nick’s brand of loyalty, but she intended to make up for that. Victor hoped Victoria would show some appreciation for Adam and what he could contribute. She said that was something to think about. She asked if he thought Adam would hang around. He asked if she thought Adam would just walk away.

Victoria didn’t want Victor to make her feel bad about not being enthusiastic to work with Adam. She thought it was clear that Adam felt the same way, given the way he stormed out of the office earlier. She said he couldn’t even stand to be in the same room as her, which wouldn’t make for a good working environment. Victor asked if Victoria didn’t understand Adam’s frustration. Victoria said Adam felt entitled to run the company, never mind the fact that he hadn’t integrated ChancComm and Newman Media. She said he wanted to wash his hands of that and move on to bigger and better. Victor thought it was in Victoria’s best interest to take what Adam had to say seriously. She said she was always willing to listen, but she wasn’t going to let her guard down because Adam was always trying to undermine her. Victor said he made it clear it was in Adam’s best interest to remain loyal. Victoria didn’t think Adam cared about that. Victor said Adam had been working very hard to be accepted by the family, and he wouldn’t do anything to jeopardize that.

Ashland was in another hotel room, in the Athletic Club. He met with a man in a suit named Stannis. Stannis wanted to explain what happened with the job in Peru, but Ashland said there was no need. “We had many successes in the past, Peru wasn’t one of them, but you can’t knock it out of the park every time, can you?,” Ashland stated. However, Ashland was very annoyed that Stannis had failed to accomplish what should’ve been a simple task of keeping Michael Baldwin locked up in the Peruvian prison so that Ashland could’ve controlled the narrative in Genoa City. Ashland still didn’t understand what went wrong – perhaps there were some unforeseen exigences they didn’t plan for, or perhaps Michael was smarter than him and Stannis. Stannis tried to explain again, but Ashland reiterated that there was no need. Ashland was offering Stannis a job that would give him a chance to redeem himself. Stannis assumed the job was still Michael Baldwin. “Oh God no, let’s not bite off more than we can chew. I can’t expect you to keep up with a wily third-rate lawyer,” Ashland said. He stated that this time the target would be much more manageable – “my wife.”

Ashland said he would be keeping a low profile in Genoa City, so he needed Stannis to be his eyes and ears. Victor and Adam had been thorns in his side, so he wanted information on them, but Victoria would be the primary target. Stannis understood that he was to tail and keep track of Victoria’s whereabouts. “Yes, good for you,” Ashland said in a condescending tone. Ashland knew this was beneath Stannis’s prodigious skill set, but after what happened in Peru, he thought that Stannis should start out with an easier assignment. Ashland wanted to know everything Victoria did – if she bought gum, he wanted to know what flavor. Stannis nodded and left.

Billy found Adam at the Society bar and joined him. Billy needled Adam about losing his CEO’s spot. Adam told Billy to go to Hell. Billy asked how many times Victor had let Billy go. Adam made a crack about Billy’s podcast. Billy said Victoria got rid of Locke, got the money back and sent Adam packing – a true trifecta. Stannis was at Society, and he listened in on Adam and Billy trading barbs.

Billy asked if Adam broke the news to Sally that she’d be getting demoted so he could have her job back. He said Sally might start to feel like she’d bet on the wrong horse. Adam noticed Billy was using a lot of gambling metaphors. He asked if Billy was reverting to his old ways. Billy was in a great mood because he got to watch Adam fail – lose his job, possibly his girl and that little bit of respect Victor had for him. Billy said Adam’s plan to get rid of Locke cost a half a billion dollars and it didn’t work, and his sister had to clean things up. Billy said Adam must be hurt and have his back against the wall. Adam admitted he did have his back against he wall. “You, of all people, should know that’s when I’m most dangerous,” Adam added.

At Crimson Lights, Nikki told Nick she was relieved Victoria was back and had cut ties with Ashland. Nikki had worried that Victoria was gone forever. She felt she should’ve had more faith in Victoria. Nick said they shouldn’t let Victoria off the hook entirely because she’d given a very convincing performance. He understood why Victoria did it, but he also thought it was cruel of her to put the family through that, especially Nikki. Nikki said that if a few sleepless nights was the price to pay for getting rid of Ashland, it was well worth it. Nikki asked what Nick thought of Victoria’s job offer. She said Victor told her that Nick seemed to be interested in returning to Newman even before Victoria made the job offer.

Nick didn’t know how real Victoria’s job offer was. He thought it was more of a gesture of goodwill. Nikki was glad her kids were close again – it was what every mother hoped for. He said he’d always support his sister, even though she could be extremely exasperating. He said Victoria needed people around her that she felt like she could trust. He thought that was where the job offer came from. Nikki said Victoria never let sentiment get in the way of how she ran business. She thought Victoria trusted Nick’s judgment and business instincts and that was why she made him the offer. He asked if she thought he should take it. She thought he should do what made him happy, but she knew Victor would be thrilled to have Nick and Victoria working together again.

Nick didn’t like the tension at Newman. He said Victor felt like he’d needed to control everything, and intentionally or not, Victor had created all these rivalries between his kids. Nikki said that could change. Nick didn’t see that happening. He noted that Adam had just stormed out of the office because Victor finally gave him the job he wanted and now it looked like he’d have to relinquish it. Nick didn’t blame Adam for being angry. Nikki guessed she couldn’t blame Adam either. Nick said Victor couldn’t seem to resist pitting Adam and Victoria against each other. Nikki said Victor didn’t always do that always on purpose. Nick said that Victor’s M.O. was to keep Adam and Victoria on opposing sides. Nick asked why he’d want to work there too and subject himself to that. Nikki said it’d mean a lot to Victor. He liked his life and his job, and he asked why he’d give that up to go back to Newman. She didn’t know, but she could tell he’d given this a lot of thought.

Nick said he had given this a lot of thought, and he realized that if he took a role in the company, he’d have more say in family matters. He said Nikki was constantly in the middle of all these skirmishes and that had to take a toll on her. That concerned him. She didn’t want him to step away from New Hope just because of her. She thought things would calm down for awhile. He was sure there was something else coming. He didn’t think Ashland was just going to stay away, and he also thought the tension between Adam and Victoria would continue to grow, and it would lead to a serious problem unless someone defused it. Nikki liked seeing Nick be so thoughtful, loving and protective – a born leader.

Nikki said she’d been COO and co-CEO and one of those positions would be available for Nick. He thought Victoria had a smaller role in mind for him, like advisor. Nikki thought that Victoria left things open-ended so Nick could decide where he fit in. she thought he had a unique vantage point because he understood what Victoria and Adam were going through but he grew out of needing Victor’s approval, because he had the confidence in knowing he could be a success without Victor. She said he could be the moral compass. Nick didn’t really see himself that way, but Sharon recently said he could provide some balance at the company. Nikki hoped Nick would consider it.

Chloe met Chelsea at the park. Chloe saw Connor playing soccer and commented on how tall he was. Chelsea was glad Chloe came. She was sorry she’d snapped at Chloe earlier. Chloe said she advised against the Marchetti job because Chelsea had been under so much pressure. She wasn’t trying to be critical, she was trying to look out for Chelsea. Chelsea knew that Chloe always had her best interests at heart. Chelsea felt like she was obligated to Chloe. She said Chloe created the fashion platform at Newman, she agreed to work with Adam, she kept the peace between Chelsea and Sally, she went to Lauren and created a new deal with Fenmore’s after Victoria dropped the brand. Chelsea said Chloe created all these amazing opportunities for her, and she felt like she couldn’t hold up her end of the bargain. She didn’t want to let Chloe down. Chloe said Chelsea couldn’t ever do that. Chelsea said not to be so sure. Chelsea was sorry, but they needed to dissolve their partnership.

Chloe felt like that was a bit of an overreaction. Chelsea said this was actually the only solution. Chelsea said that she was distracted and missing deadlines because she’d spread herself too thin because she wasn’t emotionally ready to throw herself into this business. Chelsea didn’t want to admit that to her friend, since Chloe had thrown her heart and soul into this line. Chelsea said the longer she pretended, the more defensive she’d get and the more damage she’d cause the friendship. Chelsea asked if Chloe could ever forgive her. Chloe didn’t want Chelsea to give up on her dreams. Chelsea said that wasn’t what this was. Chelsea had tried to make everyone else happy and be the old version of herself, and maybe she’d get there one day, but she didn’t currently have it in her to give this business her full focus. Chloe wasn’t mad; she supported Chelsea doing this to take care of herself. Chloe offered to tell Lauren and Summer. Chelsea already set up a meeting with Lauren. Chelsea was going to void the deal with Fenmore’s, then tell Summer and Kyle she couldn’t take the Marchetti deal. Chelsea asked again if Chloe was angry. Chloe felt a little brokenhearted, but she thought it was better to lose the business partnership than the friendship. She thanked Chloe for having the guts to face what she was going through and for being honest with her. Chelsea said she wouldn’t make this decision if she wasn’t sure Chloe would be able to find another job.

As Chloe left the park, she called Sally and asked if they could get together and discuss the job offer.

Diane: Oh! It seems we can’t stop running into each other today. What are the odds?

Phyllis: Well, they’re pretty high since you came to my hotel to use the spa. Did you have a good time?

Diane: Oh, yes, I did. And now that I know I’m welcome, I’ll be sure and stop by on a more regular basis.

Phyllis: Well, we’re happy to have you. No need to thank me.

Diane: Thank you for what?

Phyllis: Well, for having an area that provides a friendly face. I mean, I’m sure you’re still getting a very chilly reception from the people in Genoa City.

Diane: Hmm.

Phyllis: People here hold a grudge.

Diane: Well, that’s okay because I have unlimited patience.

Phyllis: Do you?

Diane: Yes. Even if the rest of this town never comes around, I will be just fine — because I’m connecting with my son and my grandson and the Abbotts, especially Jack, who is starting to accept that I will be part of the family.

****************************

Jack: And clearly she’s amused by something.

Allie: Oh, it’s, uh — it’s Noah.

Jack: Noah? Again? Boy, you two are getting pretty close.

Allie: [Chuckles] No, we’re not getting “close,” close. No, no. Oh, you know, what am I saying? I should just stop talking.

[Laughs]

Jack: I get it. I understand.

Allie: No, it just doesn’t feel like a conversation i should be having with my grandfather.

Jack: You know what? I’m just a regular guy. You can talk to me about anything.

Allie: Okay, well, Noah and I — we — we’re hanging out. But that’s all. From tomorrow on, I am gonna be focusing strictly on work.

Jack: Well, I certainly hope not. I hope you’re gonna have some fun, too. Look, I’m sure you’re gonna be a great intern, hardworking and all that, but I don’t want you locked away in a lab. The sun is out. It’s summer. You should be having fun. God knows I did when I was your age.

Allie: Okay, again, this feels like a conversation you shouldn’t be having with your granddaughter.

Jack: Okay, okay. I’ll respect your boundaries. All I’m saying is, if having fun means spending time with Noah or with your friends, I am all for it. For what it’s worth, I think Noah’s a good guy. And I know what you’ve been through, and it makes me happy to see you smile.

Abby: Opening a hotel across from the Grand Phoenix seemed like a great idea, but there were just so many issues with it, I had to give up on the whole thing.

Lily: Oh, let me guess. Was Phyllis part of the problem?

Abby: Let’s just say that she was the problem.

Elena: Mmm. I’m gonna miss you, too. But I’m gonna send you lots of updates, and I’m gonna bring you some sand from beautiful Hawaii.

Phyllis: Yeah, yeah, i realize it’s a holiday weekend. I realize that. So, let’s look at this as — i don’t know — a challenge as opposed to a setback. So, this is what you need to do. You need to e-mail our regular spa clients, and you need to tell them about our state-of-the-art equipment, alright? I spent a lot of money on this stuff, and if we don’t get people in there, well, you’re not gonna have much of a staff left. Exactly. Inspirational. I like that. That was inspirational. I got to get back to you. Hey, Diane. You need a bell around your neck.

[Clears throat] What can I help you with?

Diane: Well, I’m so glad you asked. In light of our recent truce, i thought it’d be wonderful if i could go back to having full access of your top-of-the-line gym and spa.

Phyllis: Why? I hear that the athletic club has more than adequate equipment for, you know, the average guest.

Diane: [Sighs] We can be honest with each other, can’t we, now that we’re family? Your equipment is a cut above, and Astrid’s massages have made a new woman out of me.

Phyllis: Um… I can’t help you. I’m really sorry. We have an agreement with the athletic club that they don’t poach our clients, we don’t poach theirs. Besides, we are all booked up.

Diane: Oh. Huh. Funny you should say that because I could have sworn i just heard you complaining that you were desperate for customers.

Phyllis: I was not saying that, that I was a desperate for customers. I just — you misunderstood. Diane, we have the right to refuse service to anyone.

Diane: [Scoffs] You don’t have any grounds to do that where I’m concerned. I’m wearing shoes, I’m not drunk, and I’m certainly not being disruptive.

Phyllis: Um, you were escorted off the premises before.

Diane: Oh, but, Phyllis, that was back when we were bitter rivals. If that ban still holds, then that means our truce isn’t really real. I would hate to think our détente was just on paper, and i know other people would be disappointed, too

Noah: How do you feel about surprises?

Allie: In general, I hate them. They’re very unpredictable. But I can try to be open-minded.

Allie: Hi. You wanted to see me?

Jack: Yes. I have some good news. Everything is finalized for you to start your internship at jabot. You can start tomorrow.

Allie: Oh, I am so excited, jack, and so grateful for you for making this happen.

Jack: Well, my actions aren’t completely benevolent. I have my own motives for wanting to help you.

Allie: Oh?

Jack: Well, yeah, the happier, the more settled you are, the more likely you are to stay in genoa city longer, maybe even make this home. And I would like that very much.

Kyle: Mwah!

Summer: Thank you for coming early. I wanted to talk to you before your parents got here.

Kyle: What’s wrong?

Summer: I saw my mom earlier, and I finally got her to admit what happened between her and jack.

Kyle: Yeah. I talked to my dad. He told me the whole story.

Summer: [ Sighs ] I managed to keep it together in front of my mom, but I am so upset that my mom used her relationship with jack to make a statement. She just could not resist rubbing diane’s nose in it. She didn’t stop to think for one second how that might affect jack.

[ Scoffs ] It’s just — it’s so disappointing.

Kyle: Yeah. Phyllis has a special talent for shooting herself in the foot and inadvertently taking other people down with her.

Summer: I mean, you’re not wrong, but I know that my mom really cares about jack. And I think that he feels the same way about her? She regrets so much about what happened, and I know that she would do anything to make it up to him. I’m just hoping that jack can find it in his heart to forgive her.

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Summer: What, you don’t think my mom deserves another chance?

Chloe: Thanks so much. Oh. Hello?

Sally: Chloe. I’m so glad I reached you. I just wanted to apologize for having to run off before we could finish our conversation

Chloe: Not a problem. It’s the life of a ceo.

Sally: You’re telling me. I had a conference call and a few meetings that tied me up until now. But I would love to talk more.

Chloe: So would I. I have some free time now, if that works for you.

Sally: It does. But I don’t think we should do it over the phone. Can you swing by the office?

Chloe: I’ll be right over.

Sally: Excellent. And I promise it will be worth your while.

Adam: So, what exactly did you accomplish with ashland?

Victoria: I righted every wrong.

Adam: [ Scoffs ] That’s a grand statement. Would you care to elaborate on that?

Nikki: I would like to hear all about that, too, but what matters most to me is that you’re safe and back where you belong.

Victor: Well, I couldn’t agree more…if that is true.

Victoria: It is. I cut ashland out of my life, and I made him pay dearly for what he did. And now I’m home for good.

Victor: [ Breathes deeply ] So happy to have you back, my sweetheart.

Nikki: We all are, darling. Kids can change minds…

provided by… my blood pressure is borderline.

Victor: Well, now, I think we are all very curious to hear all about it.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Well, after the hell that ashland put me through, I decided that I had to end the nightmare on my own terms and in my own way. And in order to pull that off, i had to make sure that ashland believed with complete certainty that I was willing to turn my back on the family and newman enterprises.

Victor: Why, sweetheart, i wish you had let us in on your plans. It would have saved all of us a hell of a lot of heartache.

Victoria: Daddy, I couldn’t risk ashland finding out. That’s why I couldn’t let any of you in on my plans. And I’m sorry that I had to put you through that. But I had to make a clean break.

Nikki: So, does that mean that you never believed ashland’s claims that your love changed him? Was that an act?

Victoria: I do believe that ashland loved me, as much as a man like him is capable of love. And I believe that he was sorry for what he did to me. But it wasn’t enough to see past his massive betrayal and deception.

Nick: Well, thank god.

Victoria: Look, whether or not ashland loved me, it doesn’t matter. He is who he is. He’s a man who built his entire empire on lies. And ashland is never gonna change. He doesn’t deserve forgiveness, and he certainly doesn’t deserve the generous payoff that dad gave him in hopes that he would disappear, which he didn’t do until I agreed to go with him. Honestly, I wish that you would have let me handle this on my own. But the point is, I’ve rectified everything. It’s done. And right now I just want to say thank you to all of you because I don’t think my plan would have been successful without those of you who truly love me.

Allie: Jack, you’ve made me feel at home the moment i arrived.

Jack: Well, that’s been easy because I’ve loved having you here.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Allie: [ Laughs ]

Jack: And clearly she’s amused by something.

Allie: Oh, it’s, uh — it’s noah.

Jack: Noah? Again? Boy, you two are getting pretty close.

Allie: [ Chuckles ] No, we’re not getting “close,” close. No, no. Oh, you know, what am I saying? I should just stop talking.

[ Laughs ]

Kyle: I would never say phyllis doesn’t deserve a second chance. I mean, how could I when I’m giving my mother one? And I get that she has sincere regrets and wishes she could do it all over again and — I know my dad still has feelings for her.

Summer: Then why don’t you think they should give it another try?

Kyle: She hurt him…bad. And their history — it can’t be ignored. It took a lot for him to put himself out there again, to believe that things would be different this time. After talking to him and seeing how wounded he is, I just don’t see how there’s a way for them to get back together.

Summer: [ Sighs ] I hear you. I feel terrible for my mom. But I get it. I just wonder how this is gonna affect everyone going forward, especially with diane working with us at marchetti. I know that our mother has made a truce, but —

Kyle: Yeah, it definitely seems more tenuous now that we know what’s going on.

Summer: [ Sighs ]

Kyle: I don’t think the conflict between phyllis and my mother is over.

Summer: I’m afraid that it’s only gonna get worse.

Diane: I’m amazed at how things have changed since I came back. And I am downright happy with the way things are going.

Phyllis: That’s — nah. I’m not gonna do that. Nope. Nope. No.

Diane: You okay?

Phyllis: I’m fine. Thanks.

Diane: Yeah, I was just saying that it’s just so great that michael and I are friends again and kyle has opened his heart. And summer — oh, she couldn’t be more supportive.

Phyllis: [ Clears throat ] My daughter is very gracious.

Diane: Yes, she’s a wonderful partner for my son.

Phyllis: Yes, your son is very lucky to have my daughter.

Diane: Oh, and jack — I mean, he and I are connecting on a deeper and more mature level than I ever, ever could have imagined.

Phyllis: Are you kidding me?! Are you serious right now? God, you are so out of touch. You delusional if you think that you and jack are ever, ever gonna have a romantic relationship. It is never, ever going to happen. If you have type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure

Diane: [ Scoffs ] Who said anything about romance? Your mind went straight there because you expected jack to forgive and forget and take you back like he’s done too many times before. And now you’re terrified because he finally wants nothing to do with you, and you have no one to blame but yourself. It must be making you insane.

Phyllis: I’m not gonna let you bait me, diane. I’m not gonna do that.

Diane: That’s not what I’m doing. I’m simply telling the truth.

Phyllis: I don’t believe anything that comes out of your mouth.

Diane: Well, it’s not just me. Everyone in your life can see what’s going on. Even your own daughter can see who you really are.

Jack: Well, I won’t keep you any longer.

Allie: Oh, I actually don’t have any plans.

Jack: I’m guessing that’ll change by the time you get back to noah. Anyway, I got a meeting I have to get to. Remember — you have to start work tomorrow. You’re a working woman now. Enjoy tonight. And that’s my grandfatherly advice.

Allie: [ Laughs ]

[ Cellphone chimes ]

[ Keys jangle ]

[ Knock on door ]

Sally: Come in!

Chloe: Wow. Seeing you behind that desk looks right. This job suits you.

Sally: Well, thank you. I think so, too, if I do say so myself. So…how are you doing? You seemed pretty upset before, and rightfully so.

Chloe: Well, I feel like i was, uh, on the verge of a mental breakdown, so that’s an understatement, but I — I was very appreciative of you offering a sympathetic ear.

Sally: Yeah, well, you’ve seemed like you’ve needed one lately.

Chloe: You know, it’s just been… every time chelsea and I get together, things just keep getting worse. We are constantly bickering and fighting and making each other tense. And normally, you know, we’re finishing each other’s sentences, and lately I just feel like we’re both speaking two different languages.

Sally: Well, what do you think has changed?

Chloe: It’s — I don’t know. It’s a mix of things. I love chelsea with all of my heart, and we’ve always been there for each other. I mean, we have been through so much together, you have no idea.

Sally: You’ve made that crystal clear. And I know a true best friend is hard to come by. And I just want you to know I’m not gonna dissect your friendship or pry into what’s going on with chelsea personally. I — I just want to talk about you…and your thoughts on your future. I just want to know if you actually want out of your professional partnership with chelsea or if that was just something that was said in the heat of the moment.

Chloe: Well, actually, I’ve been giving it a lot of thought, you know, what is best for both me and chelsea. And I was curious what you meant when you said about a possible alternative. Have you heard about an open position with another fashion label?

Sally: [ Breathes deeply ] I have something better in mind. I would love for you to come back and work here with me.

Victoria: I mentioned to nicholas that ashland and I were meeting with potential investors for a business venture, hoping that he would deliver that news to dad.

Nick: Which I did.

Victoria: And I’m grateful for that.

Nick: And I’m relieved because I really thought dad should hear what you had to tell me, but I really didn’t want to let you down.

Victoria: Well, I was counting on you to do the right thing, and you came through for me. Dad, once you knew, I was guessing that you would try to track down those investors and squash any possible deals.

Nikki: And here I was worried that you would be furious with him. You certainly know your father.

Victoria: Well, we do think the same. And I knew that he would want to stop me from making what he would consider a very foolish decision.

Victor: You’re exactly right.

Victoria: Once you conveniently killed any possibility of any outside funding, I came up with the idea to convince ashland that we should invest our own money. So then I opened a corporate bank account that we both had direct access to, and i deposited $250 million of my own money into that account. I know it was risky, but then ashland took the bait. And he deposited $250 million of his money, the money that dad gave him. Then, behind his back, i transferred that sum into my private account and I closed the corporate one. I can return your portion whenever you’d like.

Victor: And he never saw it coming?

Victoria: Not for one minute.

Victor: I like that. I like that a lot.

This is john.

Nick: Well, I can’t imagine ashland took it very well knowing he was being played all along. Or does he even know yet?

Victoria: Oh, he knows. After I drained the account and I packed my bags, I dropped all pretense and I let him know in blistering detail what I had done and how I truly felt.

Nikki: Oh, darling, what that must have been like for you.

Victoria: It was both painful and cathartic.

Adam: Mm.

Victoria: I was hurt by what happened, and I still am, but… in that moment, getting revenge — it was — it was exhilarating. It was a moment of triumph.

Nick: And how was it for ashland?

Victoria: It was a crushing and devastating final blow. I have never seen him look so defeated.

Victor: Sweetheart, no one deserves it more than that bastard. The fact that you turned what obviously was a devious plan on his part back on him — I admire you for that. You’re my daughter, alright. You not only did that for yourself, but you did that for all of us. I love that.

Chloe: I don’t know what i expected when you mentioned another possible career move, but I never expected you to make me a job offer, especially since there’s no longer a fashion platform here. Unless you plan to bring it back?

Sally: There are no plans to do that. This is just about me wanting to create my own team at newman media, and you check all the boxes, especially the s’S.

Chloe: The s’s?

Sally: Smart, scrappy, and savvy. You’re the kind of person that i want to work with, someone who shares my vision. And when we worked together before, we really connected.

Chloe: I-I totally agree. But this is a completely different scenario. What exactly would I be doing?

Sally: You would be helping me run the company as my right-hand woman and… chief operating officer.

Chloe: Are you serious?

Sally: [ Chuckles ]

Chloe: You’re serious?

Sally: Deadly. I am ready to order your nameplate for your office door — “chloe mitchell, coo of newman media.” Has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?

Chloe: [ Laughs ]

Phyllis: Keep my daughter out of this.

Diane: I’m just being honest. I know for a fact that summer feels that jack deserves better than you have to offer. I overheard her saying as much in the hotel.

Phyllis: You overheard her? What are you doing, spying on me?

Diane: No, not at all. I came back to the lobby, and i caught part of your conversation.

Phyllis: Wow, that’s a coincidence.

Diane: You know, phyllis, i hope for your sake and sanity that you eventually come to accept reality. Jack is never going to love you again. He’s never going to trust you again. He’s never going to think of you as anything but conniving and duplicitous.

Phyllis: That’s actually you, not me.

Diane: Oh, except…I’m the one who’s winning, and you, once again, are out in the cold.

Phyllis: I will never lose… ever!

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Phyllis: Oh, good. Good. I hope you saw that. I hope you saw every single thing, that she was the aggressor. Jack — jack, I was holding it back. I was keeping myself together, until just now.

Jack: I did see that she seemed to be pushing your buttons. I wish she hadn’t done that, but —

Phyllis: But she crossed the line.

Jack: I came upon the two of you mid-conversation. I have no idea what you might have done to provoke her.

Phyllis: Oh, my god. Oh, uh, are you kidding? What i did to provoke her?!

Jack: It wouldn’t have been the first time.

Phyllis: Wait a second. Miss “I came back from the dead” gets a free pass?! But I don’t get the benefit of the doubt?! Seriously!? I don’t understand you. What was going on between us was amazing. It could have been so great.

Jack: I think you know why it can’T.

Phyllis: I do! I have taken responsibility for every single thing. That bitch has taken responsibility for nothing that she’s ever done to me! And everything went to hell when she came back into town, with her intrusion and toxicity. But that doesn’t matter to you. You can’t even see it! Open your eyes! Open your eyes. It is everywhere. Let me tell you something. Let me tell you something. One day you’re gonna realize that you made a mistake. You will realize that. And you’ll want me back. And you’ll realize that you missed out on something really great, jack. But it will be too late.

Diane: I hope I didn’t keep you too long.

Kyle: Well, we got here a little early. We had a lot of ground to cover.

Summer: As much as I love society’s atmosphere — and their empanadas — I’m looking forward to having a proper office space.

Diane: Have you decided on a location for the new marchetti offices?

Kyle: Mm, we’re gonna work out of the jabot building once the reorganization of the space is finished. Shouldn’t take too long.

Diane: Well, that will be convenient, being under the same roof as jack — and — and — and jabot headquarters.

Kyle: Yeah, we think it was the right call.

Diane: Yeah. This is all so exciting. And I can’t wait to start work. I am humbled by the opportunity. I feel like things are finally, finally starting to settle down for me in genoa city.

Adam: Look, with all due respect, we need to address how things are gonna work at the company.

Victor: Son, I understand your concern, but right now, let us celebrate what your sister has done. It’s just extraordinary. Okay?

Nick: I think celebrating is premature. Uh, as much as I’d like to think that ashland locke is gonna slither away quietly, that’s not who he is. He’s gonna be looking for a fight. I guarantee you this is not the last we’ve heard of ashland locke. I mean, what’s gonna stop him from coming after the money he lost or his part of the company after he was betrayed?

Victoria: Because I told him in no uncertain terms that i would expose his cancer fraud if he did. His reputation, if this news gets out, in the business world will drop down to zero. He won’t be able to get a job fetching coffee, let alone start his own company. His name will be utterly ruined.

Nick: I know we think we’ve got him backed into a corner right now, and I really admire what you did, vick, but he’s got nothing to lose. He doesn’t have you. He doesn’t have dad’s money. He doesn’t have his company. What’s stopping him from going on the attack just out of pure revenge? For people who are a little intense about hydration.

Chloe: You really caught me by surprise. I have a lot of questions.

Sally: Shoot.

Chloe: For starters, what does adam think about me becoming coo?

Sally: Well, I have already ran it past him, and he supports it.

Chloe: Okay, I think I’m gonna need a definition for the word “support.”

Sally: As in champion, aid, help. And I’m sure the second thing you’re asking yourself is, “why would he do that?” Well, first of all, adam trusts my judgment. And second, as the ceo of newman enterprises, he wants the company to succeed. So, if I think hiring you is what’s best for newman media, then he’s gonna go along with it. And you’re gonna be reporting to me, not adam. So, whatever personal issues are going on between you two will not be an issue.

Chloe: Sorry. It’s just — it’s a lot to process, and I am extremely flattered by the offer. It’s just a bit overwhelming.

Sally: Look, I had my own internal debate about taking on a bigger role here. But in the end, I went with my gut, which is exactly what I am doing now with you.

Chloe: [ Sighs ]

Sally: I have a lot to prove. And you probably do, too, which can be daunting. But I absolutely believe that we can accomplish great things together. I know that we would make a fantastic team and that you are the right person for this job.

Chloe: I just don’t know how you could be so confident when I’m not.

Sally: Because I’ve witnessed it. I mean, look how far we took newman fashion. It was on the cusp of serious greatness before victoria pulled the plug. And there are definite parallels between selling fashion and selling content. They are both creative endeavors aimed at enticing the public to want their product. You’re brilliant at marketing, branding, and social media. You are always on top of the current trends, and you’re not afraid to color outside the lines whenever the occasion calls for it.

Chloe: Okay, well, I don’t disagree with you there.

[ Chuckles ] I’m — I’m just used to working for a smaller business with just a handful of employees, and this would entail supervising a ton of people and overseeing a huge budget.

Sally: All of which you can handle. I think you’re capable of more than you realize. But you’re never gonna be able to make that happen if you don’t challenge yourself.

Chloe: I am — I am humbled by how much faith you have in me, especially after the way things fell apart when newman fashion shut down and chelsea and I moved on without you.

Sally: All of that is water under the bridge as far as I’m concerned. I know that you were caught in the middle of an awkward situation, and I understand why you made the choice that you did. As you can see, I am right where I’m supposed to be. Newman media is where I belong. And it’s where you belong, too. You can shine bright here. All you have to do is say yes.

Victor: I got to be honest with all of you. I love that challenge. I love the idea of ashland locke coming after us. Let that bastard give us his best shot. Bring it on. You know why? We have never been as united as a family as we are now.

Victoria: I agree. Ashland has no viable options. Like I said, it would betupibebebebebebebebebebebebebebebebebebe for him to come after us.

Nikki: I still think we need to keep our eyes open and hope that he is smart enough to realize this is not a battle he should take on. In any event, I don’t want tooooooooooooooooe any more time worrying about what he may or may not do. And I agree with your father that, together, we are unstoppable.

Adam: Well, as much as i would love to stay here and celebrate the family reunification and ashland’s downfall, I have more important things to deal with.

[ Door slams ]

Victor: I will, uh, deal with him later, okay?

Nikki: There’s something else I want to know. Nicholas mentioned that earlier when you spoke, you said that there would be changes. What did you mean by that?

Phyllis: [ Sighs ]

Allie: Hello. Can I order a coffee, black, please?

Phyllis: Allie.

Allie: Phyllis. Hey.

Phyllis: Hey.

Allie: How’s it going?

Phyllis: It’s going great.

Allie: That’s awesome.

Phyllis: Yeah. Would you like to join me?

Allie: Oh, you know, I would, but I’m supposed to be meeting noah here somewhere.

Phyllis: Oh, okay. Well, you beat him here.

Allie: [ Chuckles ] Guess i did.

Phyllis: Yeah. You want to kill some time with me?

Jack: Sorry I’m late.

Summer: We’ll catch you up on everything you missed.

Jack: Yeah. Go ahead.

Diane: We were wondering what was keeping you.

Kyle: Dad? Is everything okay? Hey, it’s me…your skin.

Allie: You know, it’s funny, phyllis. I haven’t seen you in quite a bit. I figured you and I would have ran into each other at the abbott house before now.

Phyllis: Right, right. Well, um, I was out of town, and since I’ve been home, it’s just been crazy busy.

Allie: Oh, really?

Phyllis: Anyway, how are you doing? I bet it’s a whirlwind for you ever since you arrived from L.A., Right?

Allie: [ Laughs ] Yeah, it’s definitely been a lot of change.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Allie: Yeah. My whole life is basically going in an entirely different direction than I ever thought it would.

Phyllis: Wow. Wow. Well, genoa city — it seems to agree with you.

Allie: Yeah. Yeah, more than I expected.

Phyllis: You deserve happiness. You’ve been through so much, you know, your dad’s passing and…you know, changing citi– anyway, tell me what it’s like living here and living at the abbott house.

Allie: [ Laughs ]

Phyllis: Oh, my goodness. What is that like? How are you getting along with everyone? Jack and everyone? Just tell me everything.

Jack: I’m fine. I just got caught up talking to allie. Uh, I’ve got a million things on my mind right now. I apologize. I’m — why don’t we get down to business?

Kyle: Okay. First thing — we have set up a press conference for jabot to announce the purchase of marchetti and that I will be taking over the role as ceo of the fashion house.

Jack: Good, good. It has to be splashy.

Diane: Oh, I have some ideas about that from a P.R. Perspective. I was thinking maybe we leak the news to some high-end, sophisticated fashion sites first. Let the rumor mill create some guessing about whether or not the deal is going to happen. Then, when we do have the press conference, the buzz will be at a fever pitch.

Summer: I think it’s a great idea. The fashion industry loves to gossip.

Kyle: I like it.

Jack: Yeah. Yeah. It’s good.

Kyle: This job already seems like it’s a good fit for you, mother.

Diane: Well, I am willing to do whatever it takes, work day and night to do a good job and make you proud. There is no place that I’d rather be.

Chloe: Please know that I am so grateful for this opportunity.

Sally: So, does this mean that you are accepting the offer?

Adam: Sally?

[ Sighs ] Hey, chloe.

Chloe: Hi, adam.

Adam: I’m interrupting.

Chloe: No. No, no, no. I was — I was just leaving.

Sally: We were just discussing the coo position.

Adam: Ah.

Chloe: And I’m gonna take some time and get back to you, if that’s okay. I don’t meant to be wish-washy. I think it’s an incredibly interesting offer. I just want to make sure that I’m ready to make a move, and i need to see if I can still fix things on my end.

Sally: Yeah, I completely understand, but I hope to hear from you soon.

Chloe: You will. I promise.

Sally: Okay. Spill. What the hell happened?

Adam: Oh, my family never ceases to amaze me. They fall all over each other talking about love and loyalty and being a united front. They give each other proud looks and compliments like I’m not even in the room.

Sally: Okay. Well, you’ve set the tone, so now give me the specifics.

Adam: Victoria’s back, and they pulled the rug out from under me…again. But if they think that I’m going to sit down and take it — mnh-mnh — they are in for a rude awakening.

Victoria: You know, I know that you all know how important it has been for me to find balance between who I am on my own and who I am as a newman. Look, I know that I’ve pushed you away from time to time because sometimes I felt like i had to fight to maintain my sense of self, especially by running the family company. But after everything that’s happened with ashland, I… I realize that I didn’t have to fight for those things that I — I already had. I know that you want my happiness and my success as much as I want it for myself. And I’m whole and complete because of my family. Your advice and your guidance have kept me strong, and they have helped me to forge my identity. And, nicholas, going through this whole ordeal with you, i realized something. I realized that, no matter what, you have my back. You’re the best brother and the best friend that I could ever ask for. I’m just — I’m so thankful for all of your help and your support through this incredibly difficult period. But now [Sighs] More than ever I — I want us to come together as a team to run newman enterprises, dad as my consigliere, the wisest and most amazing of all advisors, and mom, my partner and my collaborator. And, nicholas, I think that it’s finally time that you consider coming back into the fold.

Adam: Huh? Nikki. Thought you’d still be on that call with the hong kong office.

Nikki: Well, I wrapped it up quickly so I could be here in time for victoria’s return. Do you know if she and victor are on their way back from the airport yet?

Adam: Um… I’m sorry. But this is the first I’ve heard about victoria’s big homecoming taking place right here. Guess that’s very telling, isn’t it?

Nikki: I don’t know what you mean by that.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Well, both the location and the fact that I was not informed says a lot.

Nikki: Nobody is intentionally keeping anything from you, if that’s what you’re implying.

Adam: Alright, well, then tell me what you know.

Nikki: My daughter is returning home. That’s all I’ve heard. What do you expect?

Adam: I just thought you might have an idea of what my future might be… since, apparently, victoria is coming home to roost.

Billy: Hey, vick, it’s me. Listen, [Sighs] I’m just calling to make sure that you’re alright. I ran into your family, and it’s pretty clear that they are keeping a secret about you. So can you just let me know that — that you’re okay? Please, call, text, do whatever. Just checking in. Thanks.

[ Sighs ]

[ Knock on door ]

Nick: Vick, I was so happy to get your message. Of course, I’ll meet you anywhere, but why here? Why in a hotel? What’s going on? What’s the big mystery?

Victoria: [ Chuckles ]

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Elena: Nate? What are you doing here? Thought I texted you everything — my flight, my hotel, my itinerary. Did I miss anything?

Nate: No. I got it all. I just… came home to say “aloha.”

Elena: Wow. You know, “aloha” means both “hello” and “goodbye.”

Nate: I think it’s also a way of expressing affection, compassion, love, all of which I’m feeling for you right now.

Elena: And I feel the same way about you. Especially right now, the way you’re looking at me.

Nate: [ Chuckles ]

Elena: But I have a flight to catch.

Nate: That’s why i double-checked the itinerary you sent me, and by my calculations, I came home just in time for a more meaningful goodbye.

[ Chuckles ]

Nate: [ Clears throat ]

Elena: [ Chuckles ]

Chance: Hello, man.

Devon: Oh.

Chance: How you doing?

Devon: It’s good to see you.

Chance: Yeah, you too. Guess we had the same idea about how to spend this beautiful summer day.

Devon: I know, it’s too nice to not be outside. How have you been, though? You seem like you’re doing a lot better with yourself these days.

Chance: Yeah. I’ll tell you what. Why don’t you race me around this park? If you beat me, I’ll tell you. A deal?

Devon: Race you.

Chance: Okay?

Devon: Okay, sure.

Chance: Come on.

Devon: [ Grunts ]

[ Indistinct conversation ]

Lily: Hey. Sorry if I kept you guys waiting.

Amanda: Hey. No, no, not at all. We actually just got here ourselves.

Lily: Oh, good. Okay. Oh, I know you’ve been seeing your mom a lot. How is she doing?

Imani: I just got back from seeing her for the first time since she had her stroke. She’s still struggling with her speech and mobility.

Amanda: Yeah, but we’re not just worried about her physical state. We’re also worried about her psychological state. You know, seeing her in that hospital bed, just stuck there.

Imani: But it definitely seems to lift her spirits when one of us comes to visit.

Lily: Yeah, I’m sure. I’m sure she loves having you both there. And look, if you ever want to take time off to go see her, please feel free, because, honestly, family comes first.

Imani: Thanks, lily.

Amanda: Thank you so much. We really appreciate it.

Lily: Yeah, of course.

Abby: Hello, ladies.

Lily: Hello.

Amanda: Hello.

Abby: Chancellor-winters must be flying high after that successful launch party. You must be pleased with the way it all turned out.

Amanda: We could not have done it without you. You stepped in seamlessly for phyllis. Didn’t miss a beat.

Abby: Well, it felt good being back in the saddle. You know, hosting a big event like that, I didn’t realize how much I missed it.

Lily: Oh, I meant to ask you, whatever happened to you opening a hotel across from the grand phoenix?

Abby: Oh, it’s a long story.

Lily: Okay, well, I’m definitely up for hearing it, ’cause I’m considering a similar plan of my own. Kids can change minds…

Nate: Aloha, baby.

Abby: Opening a hotel across from the grand phoenix seemed like a great idea, but there were just so many issues with it, I had to give up on the whole thing.

Lily: Oh, let me guess. Was phyllis part of the problem?

Abby: Let’s just say that she was the problem.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Abby: She fought me tooth and nail from the very beginning.

Amanda: She just didn’t like the idea of a competing hotel in such close proximity.

Abby: Oh, and you know phyllis. She just had to take it to the extreme.

Amanda: Okay, I guess that can be phyllis’ style. But what were you thinking?

Lily: Uh, well, I just wanted to revisit the idea of bringing another hotel to town.

Amanda: Really? Why?

Lily: Well, ’cause, you know, devon sold the athletic club, and I thought we’d need a place to have visiting talent stay. So then I thought, you know, we could also have corporate conferences or events, even concerts to showcase our talent.

Imani: Hmm.

Lily: I don’t know, maybe i could build an even grander phoenix in genoa city.

[ Light laughter ]

Nikki: Adam, I assure you, i know nothing about what victoria is planning once she returns home. I have not been in contact with her since she left. I don’t even know if she’s coming home for good.

Adam: Well, I double-checked with the pilot for the newman jet, and victoria was definitely the only passenger on board. And there are no plans to have a return flight, pick up ashland, or fly victoria back.

Nikki: Well, I wish that were concrete proof that she is completely done with him, but I’m not gonna let myself believe that until I hear it come out of her mouth. I mean, for all I know, she’s just coming back here to chew out her father for blocking her new business venture with ashland.

Adam: Wait a minute. Dad blocked her new business venture?

[ Sighs, chuckles ] W-was there anything that dad didn’t do to pave the way for victoria’s glorious return?

Victoria: Oh, missed you, too.

[ Sighs ] I would have met you at the house, but I’m having it deep-cleaned before I move back in, to symbolically remove any remnants of ashland.

Nick: Wow. I like hearing that. But how about some answers? I mean, can you tell me what is going on? And why wouldn’t you want me to tell mom and dad? I mean, you do know they know you got on the airplane, right? I mean, dad — well, dad’s dad. He’s got his finger on the pulse of everything. He was even planning on surprising you at the airport.

Victoria: But I’m sure my flight got in early, so he’ll just have to wait to see me. But he won’t have to wait that long. I texted you because I wanted to have a minute alone with you first.

Nick: You’re upset with me because I betrayed your confidence?

Victoria: No. No, nick. What I want is to… thank you.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: How does it feel to be so completely wrong about me? To be bested and stripped of all of your ill-gotten gains?

Ashland: You do understand you’ve just committed fraud?

Victoria: Go ahead. I dare you. I dare you to try to accuse me of anything. I will let the world know exactly what you are capable of and the levels to which you will stoop. I have proof to back it up, and I can destroy your life with one phone call. And the satisfaction of crushing you the way that you tried to crush me, that’s mine, too, leaving you with nothing but what you had before you masqueraded your way into my life and tricked me into loving you.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: [ Sighs ] You know what? Actually, it’s even less

[Chuckles] Because your company has been absorbed into newman enterprises. Your name and your presence are completely wiped from the building. And you are now what you always should have been — nothing. No one.

Ashland: I loved you with all my heart and soul.

Victoria: I could have predicted that you would say that, too. Only now I know, you have neither.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

[ Breathing heavily ]

Chance: Whoo-hoo-hoo hoo-hoo-hoo! Whew!

Devon: Oh! I almost got ya.

Chance: [ Gasps ] Almost?

Devon: I did. I almost got you.

Chance: Almost isn’t enough, man. A win’s a win.

Devon: Oh, man. Hey, you have home-field advantage, is the problem.

Chance: Home-field advantage? How do you figure that?

Devon: Well, you’re a chancellor, and your name is on the sign, so…

[ Chuckles ]

Chance: It’s your grandmother.

Devon: Yeah. [ Chuckles ]

Chance: You know what? Even though I did win, I’ll go ahead and tell you. Even though I did win by a lot.

Devon: You should have won by a lot. You should beat me. You’re a trained government agent. I’d be worried if you didn’T. But I do want to know, how have you been? I do.

Chance: Yeah, things are actually pretty good right now.

Devon: Yeah?

Chance: They are.

Devon: Good.

Chance: Obviously, losing rey was a big blow. Thought that was really gonna drag me down, but just channeling all that grief into doing something for the greater good, try to honor his legacy.

Devon: What did you do?

Chance: I closed about 80% of his open cases.

Devon: Get outta here. That’s fantastic, man. Congratulations on doing that.

Chance: Thank you, thank you.

Devon: Wow. I’m sure he’s looking down on you, smiling.

Chance: [ Chuckling ] Yeah. Yeah, I definitely feel the positive energy, you know?

Devon: Yeah.

Chance: Got abby and dom at home right now. Couldn’t ask for more.

Devon: I hear ya. I do. I’m very impressed with how you’ve gotten yourself through everything, ’cause it really seems like you got your head in a much better place.

Chance: Thanks, brother.

Devon: Yeah.

Chance: You know what? You’re due some credit, as well. Really. Your support had a positive impact, and even if abby and i couldn’t see it at the time, it helped.

Devon: Well, I — i appreciate you saying that. I do, but I also know that i played a bit of a part in what you were going through, just ’cause I made things a bit messier than they needed to be, when it came to dominic, and i could have handled things a lot differently, so…

Chance: You know what, man? We all just wanted what was best for dominic. All that matters now is that everything worked out. Hmm?

Devon: Thanks, dude.

Lily: Wouldn’t it be great? I think chancellor-winters could bring this ultra-modern state-of-the-art hotel to genoa city. And my half of the company always wanted to bring, like, a posh, swanky hotel to town. And this could be a place that we could accommodate our artists.

Abby: Something bigger than the grand phoenix?

Lily: Well, I mean, that would actually fit the bill, except for the phyllis factor. You know, dealing with her could be a potential headache, not to mention it would cut into our profits.

Amanda: Well, I do think that a chancellor-winters hotel is a great idea.

Imani: And an exciting one.

Amanda: Yeah.

Abby: I still regret giving up the grand phoenix to phyllis.

Lily: Well, we could save ourself a lot of headache and permits for construction if we get her to sell.

Abby: [ Gasps ] That would be great — sweet justice.

Amanda: I highly doubt that phyllis is going to sell the hotel. She has put so much work into that place.

Lily: Well, look, it’s just a thought. But, I mean, if we do end up building our own hotel, I have no problem going head-to-head with phyllis.

Nate: [ Sighs ] You just made it really hard for me to say goodbye…

Elena: [ Chuckles ]

Nate: …Even if it’s just for a few days.

Elena: You’re the one who made it more difficult, coming in here like that and knowing I had to be at the airport.

Nate: You got plenty of time to make that flight.

Elena: Oh? Well, you know, there’s still room in my bag if you change your mind and want to be my stowaway.

Nate: You don’t know how tempted I am at that offer, but

[Sighs] Really can’t leave work right now.

Elena: Bummer. Well, I understand. I hope I’m not forgetting anything.

Nate: Well, I hope there’s one thing you don’t forget while you’re at that conference, shining like a star, is how much I love you and will miss you every second you’re gone.

Elena: Mmm. I’m gonna miss you, too. But I’m gonna send you lots of updates, and I’m gonna bring you some sand from beautiful hawaii.

Nate: And I promise, the next trip you take is gonna be a full-on vacation. No work, no distractions.

Elena: Mmm.

Nate: Just fun, sun, away, and play.

Elena: I like the sound of that.

Nate: Come, let me take you to the airport.

Elena: Nope, I already called a car. It should be here soon. Plus, you need to get back to work. Besides, I like leaving you wanting more.

Nate: Hmm.

Elena: Mmm, mmm. Go.

Nate: [ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ]

Elena: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: And you want to thank me? I’m relieved you’re not upset, but I don’t know what I did to deserve that kind of gratitude.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] You know you were the only member of the family who came to me, after I announced that I was leaving, with no judgment, no reprimands, and just love.

Nick: Well, I’m glad you realize how sincere I was. I mean, I didn’t like, at all, what you were doing. But you’re your own woman, and that was your choice to make. It was very hard for dad to accept, because it contradicted what he wanted.

Victoria: I’m well aware of that.

Nick: Well, since we’re in such a great place, how about some answers, then? I mean, why’d you come back? What happened in new york?

Ashland: Yeah, I-I understand the transfer was approved. I’m just asking you now if there’s any way to get my money back. No, I understand.

[ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ] Okay everyone,

Amanda: [ Sighs ]

Devon: Hey, you.

Amanda: Hey. How was your afternoon?

Devon: Oh, it was good.

Amanda: Yeah?

Devon: Went for a little run at the park.

Amanda: Yeah?

Devon: Ran into chance. We had a pretty good conversation. Hey. Are you okay? Is everything alright with your mom?

Amanda: [ Sobs ] It’s hard.

Devon: I know.

Amanda: Seeing her in the hospital bed. She can’t talk.

[ Sobbing ]

Devon: I’m sorry.

Amanda: [ Sighs ]

Devon: Was having your sister with you — did that help you at all?

Amanda: Yeah. And naya loved seeing her. And having someone else there was comforting.

[ Sighs ] I don’t know. I’m kind of worried about my sister, too.

Devon: Yeah?

Amanda: Because she’s putting on this brave face, and I get it ’cause I’m doing it, too, but I don’t know — I don’t know if it’s because she’s trying to be brave in front of our mother, she doesn’t want her to see how worried she is, or she just can’t or won’t accept the sad truth. Someday her walls are gonna have to come down, and..

Devon: Well, you’re gonna be there for imani when they do. Right?

Amanda: [ Sighs ] Sorry.

[ Sobs ]

[ Sighs ] It’s just — it’s really — it’s really frustrating, you know? Because as a lawyer, if you are competent, if you’re prepared, then things usually go the way that you expect it. But in your personal life, there’s just things that you can’t control.

Devon: Well…

Amanda: And I just — i hate it.

Devon: Oh.

Amanda: [ Sobbing ]

Devon: It’s okay.

[ Smooching ] It’s okay.

Lily: Oh, hello.

Chance: Hi.

Lily: Good to see you,

Chance: Good to see you.

Abby: Well, this is a nice surprise. I thought you were working.

Chance: Well, I racked up so much overtime lately, thought I’d take the day off.

Abby: Well, what are you gonna do with all your unexpected free time?

Chance: I hung out with dom for a little bit, got some solid father-son time in, went for a run, saw devon. And now I was hoping I could hang out with my beautiful wife.

Lily: Aww. Sweet. Um, okay, I’m gonna go back to work.

[ Chuckles ] Good to see you.

Chance: Good to see you.

Lily: Bye.

Abby: Why do I feel like my wonderful husband is up to something?

Chance: Oh, because I am. I know I’ve been working so much lately, I’m afraid I’ve been kind of neglecting you.

Abby: No, you haven’T.

Chance: Yes, I have. And you’ve been a good sport about it. I appreciate that. And I’m guessing you’re not too happy about it. So, think you can ditch work for a little while? Got a surprise for you.

Abby: Mmm.

Nikki: Victor isn’t paving the way for anyone. He simply wanted to make sure that she didn’t get in any deeper with ashland, in business or anything else. This was not a calculated move against you. He’s simply trying to protect his daughter.

Adam: Oh, yes. All that famous victor newman protection. Isn’t that why my sister left town in the first place?

Nikki: You know, I don’t want to get into any of this with you right now.

Adam: Okay. I would be glad to drop the subject. Perhaps you could bring me up to speed on the hong kong deal.

Nikki: Sure. Everything things to be on track and we can probably close it.

[ Cellphone pings ]

Adam: Great.

[ Sighs ] What is it?

Nikki: It’s a text from victor. “Plane landed early. Victoria already gone. Have you heard from her?”

[ Sighs ] What on earth is she up to?

Nick: I mean, let’s start with ashland. Where is he? Don’t get me wrong. I respect your right to make your own choices, but I’m sure hoping you kicked his ass to a park avenue curb.

Victoria: I will explain everything soon, but, first, i need you to do me a big favor. I need you to get mom and dad to meet me at the office as soon as possible.

Nick: You mean, adam’s new office.

Victoria: Yes. And I would like for you to ask him to be there, as well. He needs to hear this. I’m sure it’s not gonna be that big of an imposition on him, because he’s probably already sleeping there.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] Funny.

Victoria: Thank you. I’ll be there soon. I’m just gonna get freshened up first.

Nick: Yeah, uh, cool. Um, before I go, will you just promise me that you’re back for good?

Victoria: I am. But things are gonna have to change. Only two things are forever:

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Imani: Thank you. Hey.

Nate: Hey.

Imani: How’s it going?

Nate: Um, can’t complain. I know you were going to see your mom today. How is she doing?

Imani: Unfortunately, things aren’t great.

Nate: Oh, sorry to hear that.

Imani: I’m trying not to dwell on it too much, so that i don’t become a total mess. I’ve been focusing on my work so I won’t have time to obsess over my mother’s condition.

Nate: Yeah, I get it. I’ve found solace in work during stressful times myself. Anything you want to run by me?

Imani: I’m glad you asked. There is something I wanted to follow up on.

Nate: Okay, shoot.

Imani: [ Sighs ] I-I know you’ve been eager to get elena out of her newman contract so that she could start a chancellor-winters podcast. But, unfortunately, it looks like bringing her over to our side may be harder than i thought.

Nate: [ Sighs ]

Imani: [ Sighs ]

Abby: Look at this. It’s all of my favorite goodies. This is amazing.

Chance: Oh, that’s not all. Check it out. Look at our little man.

Abby: Oh! [ Laughs ] He is so adorable. I mean, he’s just perfect.

Chance: Yeah. I took that this morning after you left. Look at his little chunky arm waving at you.

Abby: [ Laughs ]

Chance: “Go have fun, mom and dad.”

Abby: Mmm, my boy.

Chance: [ Chuckles ]

Abby: Look, I love that you did all of this for me. But I really hope you don’t think you’ve been neglecting me, ’cause I really don’t feel that way at all. I am so proud of you for the way that you have been honoring rey’s memory. It’s thoughtful and it is exactly what rey would have wanted. In fact, your dedication to your partner makes me love you even more.

Chance: Oh. Well, if that makes you love me even more, wait till you see what’s for dessert.

Abby: Oh, I can’t wait.

Chance: [ Chuckles ] Mmm.

Victoria: I gather that this hasn’t penetrated for you, because you’ve come to see me as someone that you can still manipulate, someone who thinks they can’t live their life without you. Well, guess what? I’m looking forward to it. And as to what you should do, I don’t care. Disappear. We’re through. I don’t want to see you or hear from you ever again.

[ Sighs ] Billy?

Billy: Victoria. Hey. Um, listen, is everything alright?

Victoria: I’m — [ Sighs ] I’m better than alright. I’m actually better than I have been in a long time. I have taken a huge step forward in my life. And there’s no looking back now. My asthma felt anything but normal.

Amanda: [ Sighs ]

Devon: You got to believe me that I know… what you’re going through. There’s been so many times in my life that I’ve wished I could control things that I can’T. I’ve lost a lot of people in my life. You know that.

Amanda: [ Sighs ]

Devon: From dru and neil and hilary, our child. It’s a lot.

Amanda: So much sadness. I’m sorry.

Devon: It’s — there’s nothing for you to be sorry about. It is, but there’s times where truly all you can do is just your best to get through it. And if imani wants to act tough and she wants to act like what your mom is going through isn’t bothering her, that’s fine. She can do that. You don’t have to, though. You never have to do that, ’cause you have me. You have me to lean on. You have me to cry to and to vent to. And that’s forever. ‘Cause we’re not just living together. We’re building a life together. Right?

Amanda: [ Sighs ] You have — you’ve given me an emotional security that I’ve never had before. And it feels comforting, and it feels empowering, but… it also feels really scary.

Devon: Why?

Amanda: Because… it just — it feels so fragile. And I’m scared that it might go away, and then I’m just gonna be alone.

Devon: Mnh-mnh, mnh-mnh. Stop it. Stop it. Listen to me.

Amanda: [ Sighs ]

Devon: You feel that, right? As long as that’s beating, you will never be alone again. Promise you.

Imani: Elena’s contract with newman media is airtight. It’s not gonna be easy getting her out of it.

Nate: [ Sighs ] I really hate that legal red tape could keep her from joining our team.

Imani: I know you put a clock on this. When is elena heading to hawaii?

Nate: Oh, she’s probably boarding her flight right about now.

Imani: Well, with elena gone, I guess we’ll just have to work together to figure this out.

Nate: Thank you for staying on top of this for me. I really want elena to work with us, so counting on you to make that happen.

Imani: Of course.

Nate: Honestly, it’s more than just wanting to work with elena again. I’ve really got to do everything I can to fulfill the promise I made at the launch party about the upcoming podcasts. Frankly, we don’t have the numbers I committed to yet.

Imani: Oh. I get it, and I’m glad you confided in me. I feel a little responsible, since I’m the one who encouraged you to go big when you made your speech, which makes me want to help you even more now. So we will work together and figure out a way to make your promise a reality.

Nate: My first thought is, maybe we need to meet with the new head of newman media — sally spectra. I prefer to take a personal approach.

Imani: So do I. I could set up a meeting, and i could even go with you and field any legal questions.

Nate: Good idea.

Imani: Okay, well, I’ll get on it.

Nate: Much appreciated.

Imani: Mm-hmm.

[ Sighs ] Yes, uh, I need a reservation for tomorrow night. For two.

Billy: Well, I’m happy to hear that you’re sounding so strong. I was getting a little worried, there.

Victoria: I’m sorry, I should have reached out earlier. Everything was just moving so quickly. But I wanted you to know that I’m back in town, and everything’s changed now. I’ll fill you in later. I’d like to talk to my family first. I’m actually meeting with them now.

Billy: Hey, vick, before you hang up, can I just ask… is ashland in the picture or not?

Victoria: You can breather easier. Ashland locke is finally out of my life for good.

Ashland: I need to charter a plane to chicago.

[ Sighs ] Yes. Today. For you I wish many things…

Abby: Ah. It’s a perfect day for a perfect surprise.

Chance: Well, only the best for my perfect wife.

Abby: Mmm.

[ Cellphone pings ]

Chance: Hold on. Sorry, sorry, sorry.

[ Sighs ]

Abby: I can tell by the look on your face that that’s work. And it’s important, isn’t it?

Chance: They just got a new tip on one of rey’s cases. Got to be dealt with immediately. But you know what? Somebody else can handle it.

Abby: No, no, you should go. This is your personal mission. You have to see it through.

Chance: What, and leave all this perfection? No.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Chance: Absolutely not. No way. Besides, the whole point of this was to spend uninterrupted time with you.

Abby: I know, but just the fact that you put all this together for me, it means so much. And besides, we have the rest of our lives to go on picnics together.

Chance: Are you sure?

Abby: Yes. Go. Go. [ Chuckles ]

Chance: I love you.

Abby: I love you.

Chance: Mmm.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Imani: [ Sighs ]

Nate: So, how’d it go? Any luck getting ms. Spectra to meet with us?

Imani: I charmed her assistant, got her to put me through to the woman herself.

Nate: Nice.

Imani: I even managed to get her to join us for dinner tomorrow. I made reservations for the three of us. Time for us to work some magic.

Lily: Oh, hey, I’m glad you’re back. So, I had a very interesting conversation with abby.

Billy: Hold that thought for one second, because I had a very interesting conversation with victoria. She is back in genoa city.

Lily: So, did she dump ashland?

Billy: Apparently, yeah. And to be honest, I had no idea just how much this was weighing on me. I really did not want to have the conversation with the kids where I explain to them why their mother suddenly left town.

Lily: Yeah. No, I mean, it’s good they don’t have to go through that.

Billy: It’s great. To be honest, I feel very inspired. I think now is the time to lighten up my podcasts a little bit and have a little fun. You know, I could talk about how we have to trust the people that we surround ourselves with, and have faith in the process.

Lily: Yeah, I don’t think the disastrous end to a dramatic relationship is cause for celebration.

Billy: I hear you, and i wouldn’t exactly say it that way. I would turn it around — “a dramatic end to a disastrous relationship,” because that — that is inspiring… because it’s over. It’s done. Victoria is back… where she belongs.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] Did victoria tell you when she’d be here?

Nick: She said she wanted to freshen up. She’ll be here as fast as possible.

Victoria: Hello.

Nikki: [ Gasps ] Oh, my god! Oh, darling. I’m so happy to see you. I’ve been so worried. I didn’t know if I’d ever see you again.

Victoria: I missed you so much. I couldn’t stand being away from you.

Nikki: I mean, I’d never seen you so that way. You were seemingly willing to walk away from the family forever, and…

Victoria: I’m so sorry to put you through that, but I felt like it was the only way. I had to make my break from you all seem plausible to ashland.

Adam: So, it was all a scam? A trick? [ Sighs ] What have you done, victoria?

Recap written by Christine

At the Abbott house, Jack told Allie that she could start working at the internship tomorrow. She was excited and grateful. He admitted his motives weren’t fully benevolent – he thought that the happier she was here, the more likely she would be to stay, possibly for good. She hugged him, and he smiled. She said he made her feel welcome from the moment she arrived. He said that was easy because he loved having her here. She got a text from Noah that made her laugh, and Jack commented that they were getting close. She said she and Noah weren’t close-close. She decided not to say more, since this didn’t seem like a conversation she should have with her grandfather.

Jack assured Allie that he was just a regular guy and it was okay to talk to him. She said she and Noah were just hanging out, but after tomorrow, she was going to focus strictly on work. Jack didn’t want Allie to be locked in a lab all day. He had fun at her age, and he wanted her to have fun too. He thought Noah was a good guy. Jack knew what Allie had been through and it made him happy to see her smile. Jack had a meeting, and he reiterated that Allie should have fun. Allie started texting Noah, and she accepted his invitation to meet at Crimson Lights. Jack glanced back and smiled, then he left.

Diane ran into Phyllis at the park. Diane wondered what the odds were that they’d keep bumping into each other. Phyllis replied that they were pretty high, since Diane had come to her hotel today. Diane intended to use the spa more often now that she knew she was welcome. Phyllis said there was no need to thank her for having an area that provided a friendly face. Phyllis was sure Diane was still getting a chilly reception from the people of Genoa City. Diane said that even if the rest of the town never came around, that was fine because she was connecting with her son, her grandson and the Abbotts, especially Jack, who was accepting that she would be part of the family.

Diane was amazed at how things had changed since she returned, and she was happy with how things were going. Phyllis was going to say something, but she decided against it. Diane continued that she and Michael were friends again, Kyle had opened his heart, and Summer couldn’t be more supportive. Phyllis said that her daughter was gracious. Diane gushed about the deep mature level that she and Jack were connecting on. Phyllis couldn’t take it anymore. She snapped that Diane was delusional if she thought she would ever be romantically linked with Jack again. “Who said anything about romance? Your mind went straight there because you expected Jack to forgive and forget and take you back like he’s done too many times before. And now you’re terrified because he finally wants nothing to do with you, and you have no one to blame but yourself. It must be making you insane,” Diane said, with a smile. Phyllis refused to let Diane bait her. Diane said she wasn’t baiting Phyllis; she was simply stating the truth. Phyllis said she didn’t believe Diane, then Phyllis started to leave. “Well it’s not just me,” Diane called out, which caused Phyllis to stop. “Everyone in your life can see what’s going on. Even your own daughter can see who you really are,” Diane said.

Phyllis ordered Diane to keep Summer out of this. Diane said she was just being honest. She overheard Summer say that Jack deserved more than Phyllis had to offer. Phyllis asked if Diane was spying on her. Diane said no – she came back to the lobby and caught part of the conversation. Phyllis didn’t buy it. Diane hoped Phyllis accepted the reality that Jack would never love or trust her again and that he’d never think of her as anything but conniving and duplicitous. Phyllis said that was Diane, not her. “I’m the one who’s winning and you, once again, are out in the cold,” Diane stated, before flouncing off.

Jack came up and caught Phyllis yelling after Diane. “I will never lose. Ever!,” Phyllis bellowed. Phyllis was glad Jack came. She hoped he saw that Diane was the aggressor. Jack did notice that Diane seemed to be pushing Phyllis’ buttons, and he wished Diane hadn’t done that. However, since Jack didn’t see the whole exchange, he wasn’t sure what Phyllis may have done to provoke Diane. Phyllis was angry Jack would think that she provoked Diane. He said it would be the first time. “Miss ‘I came back from the dead gets a free pass, but I don’t get the benefit of the doubt? Seriously?,” she yelled. She didn’t understand him – they’d had something amazing and it could’ve been great. He thought she know why it couldn’t. She continued to scream in his face throughout the exchange. She said she knew why it couldn’t work because she’d taken responsibility for everything, while that bitch didn’t take responsibility for anything she’d done to Phyllis. Phyllis said that everything went to hell when Diane came to town and Jack didn’t see it. Phyllis predicted that one day Jack would realize he made a mistake, and he’d want her back, but it would be too late. She walked off.

Summer and Kyle met at Society, where Jack and Diane would be joining them later. She said her mom told her what happened between her and Jack. He said he got the story out of his dad too. Summer was disappointed by Phyllis using her relationship with Jack to irritate Diane. Kyle said Phyllis had a special talent for shooting herself in the foot and inadvertently taking other people down with her. Summer said Kyle wasn’t wrong, but Phyllis cared about Jack, and Summer thought Jack felt the same way. Summer hoped Jack could forgive Phyllis. Kyle sighed, and Summer asked if he didn’t think her mom deserved another chance.

Kyle would never say Phyllis didn’t deserve another chance. He noted that he was giving his own mother another chance. He knew his dad still had feelings for Phyllis, but she’d hurt him badly. Kyle said that it took a lot for Jack to put himself out there again, after his history with Phyllis. Jack was very wounded, and Kyle didn’t see a way for Jack and Phyllis to get back together. Summer knew Kyle had a point, but she felt terrible for her mom. She wondered how this would affect everyone going forward, especially with Diane working at Marchetti. Both Summer and Kyle didn’t think the conflict between tehir mothers was over.

Diane met Kyle and Summer at Society. Summer said she loved the ambiance at Society, but she’d be glad when they could have meetings in their own office space. Diane asked if they’d found a location for the new Marchetti office. Kyle said they were going to work out of the Jabot building once the space had been reorganized. “Well that will be convenient, being under the same roof as Jack – and – and – and the Jabot headquarters,” Diane replied. She was humbled by the opportunity and she felt like things were finally starting to settle down for her here.

Jack went to Society and apologized for being late. Diane said they wondered what kept him. Jack said he’d gotten caught up talking to Allie. He was ready to start the meeting. Kyle said they set up a press conference to announce the purchase of Marchetti and that Kyle would be taking over the role of CEO. Jack wanted it to be splashy. Diane had an idea to leak the news and get some buzz going before the press conference. Summer, Kyle and Jack all thought was a good idea. Kyle said that this job already seemed like a good fit for Diane. She said she was willing to do what it took to do a good job and make Kyle proud.

Allie went to Crimson Lights to meet Noah and ran into Phyllis. Phyllis invited Allie to wait with her for Noah to arrive. Allie was surprised she hadn’t seen Phyllis in awhile. She’d thought they’d run into each other into the Abbott house. Phyllis said she’d been out of town, and she’d been busy since she got back. Phyllis asked how things were going. Allie said it had been a whirlwind, and her life had gone in a different direction than she ever expected. Phyllis said Allie deserved happiness. Phyllis wanted to hear everything about Allie’s life at the Abbott house and how she was getting along with Jack and the others.

At Newman Enterprises, Adam asked what Victoria accomplished with Ashland. “I righted every wrong,” she replied. He asked her to elaborate. Victor walked in and hugged Victoria. She said she cut Ashland out of her life and made him pay dearly, and now she was safe and home for good. Victoria told her parents and brothers that she had to end the nightmare Ashland put her through on her own terms. In order to pull that off, she had to make sure Ashland believed she was willing to turn her back on the family and the company. Victor wished Victoria had told them in advance and saved them all that heartache. She was sorry she put them through that, but she couldn’t risk Ashland finding out she was lying to him. Nikki asked if that meant Victoria never believed Ashland’s claims that her love changed him. Victoria believed Ashland loved her as much as a man like him was capable of love, and she believed he was remorseful, but that wasn’t enough to see past his massive betrayal. She said whether or not Ashland loved her didn’t matter – he built his empire on lies and he wasn’t ever going to change. She said he didn’t deserve forgiveness or the generous payout Victor gave him in hopes he’d disappear, which he didn’t do until she agreed to go with him. She wished the family let her handle this on her own, but she’d rectified everything. She thanked all of them. “I don’t think my plan would have been successful without those of you who truly love me,” she said. Adam looked like he wanted to say something, but Victor waved him off and shook his head no.

Victoria explained that she told Nick that she and Ashland were meeting with potential investors for a business venture, hoping that Nick would share that information with Victor. “I was counting on you to do the right thing, and you came through for me,” she told her brother. Victoria had expected Victor to try and track down the investors and squash any possible deals. Nikki said she’d been worried Victoria would be furious with Victor. “You do know your father,” Nikki admitted. Victoria said she and Victor thought the same way. She knew he would want to stop her from making what he would consider a foolish decision. Victor said Victoria was right. Victoria said that once Victor killed the potential funding, she convinced Ashland that they should use their own money. She opened a corporate bank account, and she deposited 250 million dollars of her money into the account, and Ashland took the bait and transferred in the 250 million that Victor gave him. She then moved his money into her private bank account and closed the corporate account. She said she’d give Victor back his money. Victor was proud. He winked at Victoria.

Nick couldn’t imagine Ashland took the news very well. Victoria said she told Ashland what she’d done and how she truly felt. It was painful and cathartic. She was still hurt, but in that moment, getting revenge was a moment of triumph. She said it was a crushing and devastating final blow for Ashland, and he’d never looked so devastated. Victor admired Victoria for turning Ashland’s devious plan back on him. “You’re my daughter alright. You not only did that for yourself. You did that for all of us, and I love that,” Victor said. Everyone except Adam looked pleased.

Adam wanted to talk about how things would work at the company. While Victor understood Adam’s concern, he felt that this was the time to celebrate the extraordinary thing Victoria did. Nick thought celebrating was premature, since Ashland was going to be looking for a fight. He asked what was to stop Ashland from coming back to get the money he lost or his part of the company. Victoria said she told Ashland that she’d expose his cancer fraud if he did, which would ruin his name. Nick admired what Victoria did, but he said Ashland had nothing to lose, so what was topping him from going after revenge?

Victor loved the idea of Ashland coming after the Newmans. Victor said they’d never been more united as a family. Adam looked annoyed. Victoria agreed with Victor. She said it would be stupid for Ashland to come after them. Nikki said they should keep their eyes open and realize that this wasn’t a battle they should take on. Nikki said together, they were unstoppable. Adam said he had more important things to do than celebrate the family’s reunification and Ashland’s downfall. He left. Victor said he’d deal with Adam later. Nikki knew that when Victoria spoke to Nick earlier, she said there would be changes. Nikki wanted to know what that meant.

Victoria said it had been important to find balance between who she was and who she was as a Newman. She knew she’d pushed them away from time to time because she felt like she had to fight to maintain her sense of self, especially while she was running the family company. After everything that happened with Ashland she realized she didn’t have to fight to get thing she already had. She knew they wanted her happiness and success as much as she wanted it. She felt whole and complete because of her family. She said their guidance and advice kept her strong. She realized Nick had her back no matter what, and he was the best brother and friend she could ever ask for. She was so thankful for their help and support through this difficult period. She wanted them to come together as a team to run Newman. She wanted Victor as her consigliere, the wisest and most amazing of all advisors, Nikki as her partner and collaborator, and she thought it was time that Nick consider coming back into the fold.

Sally called Chloe, who was at Crimson Lights, and apologized for having to cut their talk short earlier. Sally wanted to talk again, and Chloe did too. Chloe accepted Sally’s invitation to meet her at Newman Media. Sally promised it would be worth her while. Chloe arrived at Sally’s office and commented that she looked right behind that desk. Sally asked how Chloe was doing, since she was so upset before, and rightfully so. Chloe had felt like she was on the verge of a mental breakdown. She said she and Chelsea were constantly bickering and fighting lately. Normally, they were in sync, but now it felt like they were speaking two different languages. Chloe loved Chelsea with all her heart, and they’d been through so much together. Sally knew a true best friend was hard to come by and she wasn’t going to dissect Chloe’s friendship. Sally just wanted to know if Chloe actually wanted out of her professional partnership with Chelsea, or if she’d just said that in the heat of the moment. Chloe admitted she was curious what Sally meant earlier when she said there was a possible alternative.

Chloe asked if Sally heard about an opening at another fashion label. Sally had something better in mind – she wanted Chloe to come work here with her. Sally wanted to create her own team at Newman Media, and Chloe checked all the boxes – smart, scrappy and savvy. Sally said they really connected when they worked together before. Chloe asked what she’d be doing. Sally revealed that she wanted Chloe to be her COO. Chloe was stunned. She asked what Adam thought about this. Sally said that Adam supported this because he trusted her judgment, and he wanted Newman Media to succeed, so if Sally thought this was best, he’d go along with it. Sally said Chloe would be reporting to her, so any personal things going on between Chloe and Adam wouldn’t be an issue. Chloe was flattered, but overwhelmed by the offer. Sally had an internal debate about taking this job, but in the end, she went with her gut, and she was doing that now with Chloe. Sally had a lot to prove, and she figured Chloe probably did too, but she knew they could accomplish great things together. Chloe didn’t know how Sally could be so confident when Chloe wasn’t. Sally said to look how far they took Newman Fashion – it was on the verge of greatness before Victoria shut it down. Sally also said selling fashion was similar to selling content – they were both creative endeavors aimed at enticing the public. Sally felt Chloe was brilliant at branding, always on top of current trends, and she wasn’t afraid to color outside the lines. Chloe was used to working with a handful of employees, and this would entail overseeing a ton of people and a huge budget. Sally thought Chloe was capable of more than she realized and that she wouldn’t see it unless she challenged herself.

Chloe was humbled by Sally’s faith in her, especially when Chelsea and Chloe moved on without Sally after Newman Fashion shut down. Sally called it water under the bridge. She knew Chloe was caught in an awkward situation, and she understood why Chloe made the choice she did. Sally said she belonged at Newman Media and so did Chloe. Chloe was grateful for the opportunity. Before she could say more, Adam burst in. Chloe decided to leave. She said she’d take some time to think it over and to see if she could fix things with her current job. Sally understood. Chloe left. Adam was upset because his family had fallen all over each other talking about family love and loyalty and complimenting each other and acting like he wasn’t even in the room. “Victoria’s back and they pulled the rug out from under me. Again. But if they think that I am going to sit down and take it – they are in for a rude awakening,” he stated.

Transcript provided by Suzanne

Phyllis: Yeah, yeah, i realize it’s a holiday weekend. I realize that. So let’s look at this as — i don’t know — a challenge as opposed to a setback.

[ Clears throat ] What can I help you with?

Diane: Well, I’m so glad you asked. In light of our recent truce, i thought it’d be wonderful if i could go back to having full access of your top-of-the-line gym and spa.

Phyllis: Why? I hear that the athletic club has more than adequate equipment for, you know, the average guest.

Diane: [ Sighs ] We can be honest with each other, can’t we, now that we’re family? Your equipment is a cut above, and astrid’s massages have made a new woman out of me.

Phyllis: Um… I can’t help you. I’m really sorry. We have an agreement with the athletic club that they don’t poach our clients, we don’t poach theirs. Besides, we are all booked up.

Diane: Oh. Huh. Funny you should say that because I could have sworn i just heard you complaining that you were desperate for customers.

Phyllis: I was not saying that, that I was a desperate for customers. I just — you misunderstood. Diane, we have the right to refuse service to anyone.

Diane: [ Scoffs ] You don’t have any grounds to do that where I’m concerned.

I would hate to think our détente was just on paper, and i know other people would be disappointed, too.

Phyllis: Oh, my goodness. Listen to you. Are you threatening me right now? Are you gonna tattle on me if i don’t give you an appointment at my hotel? Wow.

Summer: Hi, guys.

Diane: Hi, summer.

Phyllis: Hey, supergirl

Summer: Hi. What’s going on here with you two peace-makers?

Diane: Oh, I was thinking because your mother has been so generous to declare a truce that I would spend my self-care money here. So, I was just telling phyllis what a fabulous job she’s done creating such a restorative oasis.

Summer: What a nice gesture. Isn’t it, mom?

Phyllis: It’s lovely. Well, the grand phoenix welcomes you with open arms.

Allie: Jack, you have a few minutes?

Jack: Sure. Anytime for you. What’s up?

Allie: Hey, so, I have been thinking about that internship offer.

Jack: And?

Allie: And I would be very interested in the position. That is, if it’s still available.

Jack: It certainly is. And I am thrilled to hear this. I will call hr right now and get your paperwork started and… I’m delighted, and ashley will be, too.

Allie: Great. Well, I can’t wait to start. I do — [ Sighs ] Jack, I do have one condition, though.

Jack: A new intern with demands.

Allie: No. It’s not that. You and the rest of the family have been so kind and so welcoming, and I appreciate that. But I can’t help but wonder if some people might think I have ulterior motives, you know, that I came here looking for a handout or to take advantage of being an abbott.

Jack: Allie —

Allie: And I hope there is no part of you, jack, that feels that I came here with nefarious intentions, trying to take all I can get from you. And — and I hope there’s no part of you that’s doing this because of my dna. I need to know that this is based purely on merit and not out of some sense of guilt you feel for the years that you lost with my dad.

Kyle: Which handsome ceo just scored two unbelievable seats to genoa city’s hottest singing star’s hometown concert?

Mariah: I’m gonna go out on a limb and —

Kyle: This guy! We cannot wait. Summer’s been singing all the songs from your album. Coffee, please.

Mariah: Uh, kyle, that’s very sweet —

Kyle: Yes, I had to pay through the nose, but we would have paid double just to see tessa singing her heart out onstage. Tessa, what’s wrong?

Mariah: Uh, tessa had an appointment this morning with an ear, nose, and throat specialist. She has vocal chord nodules.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] Oh, tessa. I’m so sorry.

Mariah: The doctor is recommending surgery followed by vocal training… which means she’s not only going to have to postpone this show, but her tour…indefinitely. Like pulsing, electric shocks,

Kyle: Tessa, I’m so sorry. I cannot even imagine.

Tessa: I just… I had so much riding on this tour. And, honestly, I’m worried about what all this time out of the spotlight is gonna do to my career.

Mariah: Hey. Look at me. Your health is the most important thing. And I know that this is not ideal, but thank goodness it wasn’t more serious. So, we are gonna do everything we can to make sure you have the best care and that you’re doing anything and everything possible to not only preserve your voice, but career.

Tessa: Yeah. I mean, look, I’m trying to be optimistic.

[ Sighs ] But I — I can’t help but feel like I’m disappointing all the fans that I’ve made after all these years.

Kyle: No. When you go public with the news, your fans will rally around you and cheer on your recovery.

Mariah: It’s true. Tessa, they adore you. They just want you to be happy and healthy and be able to create more beautiful music.

Kyle: I mean, should you get a second opinion? Not that I’m doubting your doctor or the diagnosis, but it might help ease your mind knowing you’re following the best course of treatment.

Mariah: Actually, we’re meeting with elena in a little bit. Her uncle jett had something very similar, and she was instrumental in his recovery.

Kyle: Smart. And I know this sucks, tessa, especially on the heels of your album dropping, but in another way, couldn’t be better timing.

Mariah: You’re gonna have to explain that one.

[ Chuckles ]

Kyle: Well, if you’re forced to take a break from your singing career, it may give you more time to focus on your adoption plans.

Mariah: Uh…actually, we’ve, uh — we’ve put that on hold for a little bit to deal with us.

Tessa: Mariah thought it was important that, uh, I heal first.

Mariah: Hey. We’re gonna meet our child when the time is right. I believe that in my soul.

Jack: It never crossed my mind that you came to genoa city for mercenary reasons. As a matter of fact, I feel like you’re doing us a favor. We are lucky to have someone with your graduate education in that position. As a matter of fact, there were discussions that you might get bored.

Allie: [ Laughs ] Never. I loved being at that lab at jabot, imagining all the possibilities.

Jack: Well, I am thrilled you’re interested in learning the family business… and sticking around, for a while anyway.

Allie: You know, I do feel like I’m starting to find my footing here.

[ Doorbell rings ] You expecting anyone?

Allie: Uh, I don’t think so.

Jack: Come in, noah.

Noah: Hey, jack.

Jack: My guess is you’re not here to see me.

Allie: [ Chuckling ] Hey.

Noah: Hi.

Jack: Listen, much as I’d like to stick around, I have a meeting to get to, so the house is yours.

Allie: Alright. Bye, jack. What, uh — what brings you by?

Noah: How do you feel about surprises?

Allie: In general, I hate them. They’re very unpredictable. But I can try to be open-minded.

Summer: I have to say, I am impressed. This truce is off to a promising start.

Diane: [ Sighs ] I’d do anything for kyle.

Phyllis: And I, too, would make sacrifices for my children. In fact, I have. I have, for you and kyle. You know, when he didn’t have a mom around.

Diane: And since kyle and summer and I will be working so closely at marchetti, it is imperative that we all get along.

Summer: Absolutely. This is the goal.

Phyllis: Yeah, that is the goal. This is us getting along.

Diane: Yes. So far, so good.

Phyllis: So far, so good!

Diane: Right?

Phyllis: And in fact — in fact, look at this. We had a cancellation. Oh, my goodness. You know what I’m gonna do? I’m gonna gift you with our very special resurrection rejuvenation treatment.

Diane: I am dying to hear more.

Phyllis: Oh, you’re gonna love it. I mean, I haven’t done it myself, but I hear that it digs, digs down and brings out the best in someone. People describe it as — I don’t know — coming back from the dead. But I don’t know about that.

[ Laughs ]

Diane: You know, that just sounds way too expensive and so self-indulgent. But you know what? I’m worth it.

Phyllis: Yes, you are. Yes, you are. Oh, I’m so excited.

Summer: Wow. Where do — where do I sign up, mom?

Phyllis: Oh, my gosh. You know what? There’s always a place for you, always a place.

Diane: You know, I think summer was my good luck charm. You were all booked up and then my daughter-in-law shows up and suddenly — pfft! Serendipity.

Phyllis: Serendipitous.

Diane: Yeah.

Phyllis: I know. She’s like a good luck charm for sure. So, let me see here. Here we go. Yeah, astrid is ready for you whenever you’re ready.

Diane: Sounds great. I can hardly wait.

Phyllis: Welcome to the grand phoenix spa. I hope you enjoy yourself.

Diane: I will. Ciao.

Phyllis: Ciao.

Summer: What the hell was that? (Vo) it’s yoooopllllaaaitiimmeee!!!

Mariah: Everybody at jabot is buzzing about you being home.

Tessa: Yeah, and no one is more excited than this lady right here.

Kyle: Well, I hope you’re still happy after you hear the latest. Thank you. And thank goodness you’re hearing it from me.

Mariah: Oh, no. What’s the bad news?

Kyle: I’m the new ceo of marchetti.

Tessa: [ Gasps ] That’s fabulous!

Mariah: No! No, it isn’T. You brought me to jabot, and now you’re ditching me? Kyle, you can’t go.

Kyle: No, no, no, no. I’m not ditching anyone, and I’m not leaving jabot. I’m just vacating my co-ceo seat to run our newest acquisition. I think it’s important to learn the ins and outs of marchetti and maximize the value to jabot.

Mariah: Hmm. Synergy.

Kyle: Exactly. You know, it’s been fun running the family business with my dad, and I learned more than I could have picked up in any other situation, but when summer came to me with this proposition, I couldn’t say no.

Mariah: And how did jack take the news?

Kyle: He’s all for it, happy for me, just like I hope you will be eventually.

Mariah: You being home is amazing. I mean, you’ve even had a positive effect on summer, who’s come back from italy, dare I say it, likeable?

Kyle: Finally!

[ Laughter ] These past couple years, especially the time we spent away, proved one thing — summer truly is the love of life.

Phyllis: Summer, I’m doing my level best to keep the peace. That’s what I’m doing. But you heard the princess of passive-aggressive behavior, didn’t you?

[ High-pitched voice ] Acting like — like she’s a sweet little angel, that she’s a little baby that’s just been born. Ooh!

[ Normal voice ] Ugh.

Summer: What I heard was diane not taking the bait from you. Look, I know that this isn’t easy. I get that. But I love that you’re trying. I really do. So please just keep it up for me and for kyle. We are counting on you to take the high road here.

Phyllis: Okay. I’ll take the high road. That’s what I’m gonna do. The high road. It’s uncharted territory. Just…

Summer: Thank you.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] You’re welcome. Let me ask you something. I mean, do you really think that it’s a good idea to have diane working at marchetti? I mean, do you really think so? Because, summer, we don’t know what’s gone on in her life, only what she’s told us. And she could revert back to form. I mean, that is her M.O.

Summer: Are you trying to make trouble for diane right now?

Phyllis: No, I am not. I am trying to protect you. That’s all I’m trying to do, is protect you, summer. Got it?

Summer: Okay. Look, mom —

Phyllis: You were a little girl. You don’t remember what she was like, and you don’t know exactly what she did to me and others in this town.

Summer: Okay, just… stop it, please. Diane — she’s just eager to get back to work, to start a new career here. And kyle and I are just trying to set her up for success in that because it’s the right thing to do for everyone.

Phyllis: Oh, gosh. You’ve become a believer, haven’t you? Wow. You’ve accepted diane as entrusted member of this family. And kyle — he’s just welcomed her back, no problems, no questions. And jack probably feels the same, doesn’t he? Am I right?

Summer: [ Sighs ]

Noah: I have unearthed something so incredible, so exciting, I know you’re gonna love it just as much as I do.

Allie: Okay. Do I get a clue?

Noah: You know, it’s funny that you should mention clues because it’s an old radio mystery show. Listen to the story, find all the evidence, solve the crime.

Allie: Oh, I can totally get into that.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Allie: Wait, but you could’ve, you know, saved yourself a trip and just texted me the link.

Noah: See, that’s the thing. It’s actually not online. Trust me. I looked. A friend of mine turned me onto it. I made some recordings, and… I got you this. It’s an mp3 player. That way, you can listen to it.

Allie: [ Laughs ] Wow. Wow. Ancient technology.

Noah: I know. I know.

Allie: No, I think I’ve heard of these things. You really are full of surprises, aren’t you?

Noah: I can be.

Allie: Uh, well, so, how does this work? Uh, let’s — let’s give it a listen and see if it lives up to the hype.

Noah: Yeah, let’s do it.

Allie: Yeah.

Noah: [ Sighs ]

Allie: So, is there a power button, or should I just, you know, hold it and make a wish?

Noah: [ Laughs ] It’s right there.

Allie: Wow. Would you look at that.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Allie: Okay, so, what about speakers?

Noah: Oh, yes.

[ Sighs ]

[ Chuckles ] There you go.

Allie: Amazing.

Noah: Voil. Alright, let’s give it a listen.

Allie: Wait. Now?

Noah: Yeah, I want to see your reaction.

Allie: Oh, no, no, I don’t like being observed like that. Makes me feel like a science experiment.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Allie: Now you’re part of the problem.

Noah: Okay, and together we will find the solution.

[ Scoffs ] Look at me, making science jokes. Who am I?

Allie: Oh, god. [ Chuckles ]

Noah: Alright, let’s do this and solve a crime.

[ Click ]

Allie: [ Chuckles ] Kids can change minds…

Summer: The question isn’t whether we’ve all accepted diane, it’s why do you feel the need to plant seeds of doubt.

Phyllis: Because someone needs to be the voice of reason.

Summer: I think that this is about more than your history with diane. I think that something happened in your recent past that is driving your behavior right now. Mom, are you ever gonna tell me why you and jack broke up? I know that it had something to do with diane.

Phyllis: What’s done is done, summer.

[ Sighs ] Look…

Summer: Mom… if you did something, if you made a mistake, if you did something to push jack away, I’m not gonna judge you. Just be honest with me.

Phyllis: Okay, I think it’s very interesting that you think

i was the one who was wrong.

Summer: Mom, you were the one that told me that you screwed up. You told me that. And then you proceeded to minimize everything. But you guys aren’t together anymore. This isn’t just a bump in the road. This is a sinkhole with caution tape and orange cones around it. What happened between you guys?

Phyllis: You should ask jack.

Summer: I’ve asked jack. He says that there’s nothing to tell.

Phyllis: Okay, well, then there’s nothing to tell. Accept that.

Summer: I’m not gonna accept it, because I care about you. I care about you and I care about jack. I can see that you’re both hurting. I can tell that jack is heartbroken over this.

Phyllis: Okay. [ Sighs ] I mean, I’m not happy about that.

Summer: What aren’t you happy about? You know, summer… honestly, I… cannot accept… that jack has just… let diane back into the family… after everything that bitch has done to me. And he just expects me to be fine and go along with it. I cannot do that. And I’m sorry about what happened. And — and I do feel bad.

Summer: What are you sorry about, exactly? Please, mom, just… walk me through it, step by step. What happened between you guys?

Phyllis: [ Sighs ]

Noah: Well, the music is pretty spooky, already.

Allie: Shh! I thought you were ready.

Noah: I was born ready.

Allie: Yeah, that explains a lot.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

[ Gasps ] That’s it.

[ Both laugh ] Wait, why would she —

Allie: Shh!

Noah: Okay.

[ Both laugh ] I told you.

Allie: [ Sighs ]

Noah: [ Sighs ]

Allie: Wow.

Noah: What do you think, so far?

Allie: [ Laughs ] That was awesome. It was like we stepped into a time machine, you know, and — and the sound effects.

Noah: Oh, yeah, puts you right in the story. Ominous organ music.

Allie: The drama. Oh, I am so here for it.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Allie: It’s almost like I’d forgotten that we aren’t, you know, in the streets of london on the coldest night in the middle of 1918.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Allie: [ Sighs ] This was perfect, you know? Way better than a movie.

Noah: Yeah, but, you know, a movie does have one thing that this doesn’T.

Allie: Popcorn?

Noah: Can you make some?

Allie: Oh, can I make some?

Noah: Of course. What, you’re an expert popcorn maker, too?

Allie: Okay, okay, I will just say that it’s simple science. All you need to do is just add heat and then, you know, don’t let it burn. I am kind of a phenom when it comes to popping corn, so…

Noah: Alright, let’s see it. Hey, uh, where do you think you’re going with that, miss?

Allie: I’m taking the mystery with me.

Noah: What, you think I’m gonna skip ahead?

Allie: You know, maybe one day, when we get to know each other better, I’ll be able to leave this with you unsupervised, but for now…

Noah: Okay, yeah. Yeah, you’re right. There’s still a lot of things we, uh, don’t know about each other.

Allie: Yeah, exactly.

Noah: So I’ll go with you.

Allie: Uh, what? You don’t trust me?

Noah: No. You don’t know how much butter i like on my popcorn, and that’s really something that ought to be supervised.

Allie: You actually think I’m gonna skip ahead?

Noah: Listen, allie, maybe one day, way, way in the future, when we get to know each other a little bit more, maybe then I’ll feel comfortable leaving you unsupervised. But, for now, consider me your shadow.

Allie: Alright, shadow. Let’s go pop some corn.

Elena: Hey.

Mariah: Hi.

Elena: I am so sorry I’m late.

Mariah: Is everything okay at memorial?

Elena: Uh, yeah, it is. It’s me. I’m the problem. I’m going to this medical convention in hawaii, and I am the great procrastinator when it comes to packing.

Kyle: Hmm

Elena: [ Chuckles ]

Kyle: That’s my cue. Uh, I need to go meet my dad. You’ll take care of these two?

Elena: It would be my pleasure.

Kyle: Mm-hmm. Tessa, you’re in good hands. All you need to do is take care of yourself. I’ll see you later.

Elena: See ya.

Mariah: Bye.

Tessa: Bye.

Elena: Let’s have a seat.

Tessa: We’re good. Do you want a coffee or anything?

Elena: No, I’m okay.

Mariah: Yeah, elena has a plane to catch. Probably just wants to give us her opinion.

Elena: Well, first, I know how anxious you must be. So let’s just take a breath, and we’ll do this step by step.

Tessa: Okay, that’s not really my strong suit.

Elena: [ Chuckles ] Your situation seems very similar to what my uncle went through. So, what questions do you have for me?

Tessa: Only one. Is my singing career over?

For your most brilliant smile,

crest has you covered.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Elena: I can’t even imagine how frightened you must be. But after talking to your doctor, and with my own experience with my uncle jett, i believe you can and will recover and be able to get back to your career.

Tessa: Oh, thank god.

Mariah: [ Sighs ]

Elena: Unfortunately, there are no promises in medicine. But provided you continue to follow your doctor’s recommendations, you have every reason to be optimistic.

Tessa: How is your uncle now?

Elena: After his surgery, he went on a comeback tour.

Tessa: [ Sighs ]

Elena: [ Chuckles ] And he just released a new single a few months ago.

Tessa: [ Sighs ]

Mariah: So it’s possible?

Elena: Yeah.

Tessa: Okay, um, maybe I’m jumping the gun, but do you have any idea what a timeframe looks like?

Elena: That’s hard to predict, but I would think of this as more of a detour. You will get back on track once you fix the problem. But I don’t want you to rush your recovery.

Mariah: Okay, I’m going to tattoo that on my forehead, just to remind her.

[ Laughter ]

Elena: Your voice is like your instrument, right? If someone gave you a stradivarius violin, you would take care of it. You would protect it, right?

Tessa: Yeah. I — yeah, I understand.

Mariah: And, uh, the ent — she’s good?

Elena: She is highly respected. And my uncle jett cannot stop singing her praises. But if you want a second opinion, I am happy to send over more recommendations.

Tessa: Yeah, it couldn’t hurt. And, uh, thank you.

Elena: Yeah, sure.

Mariah: Are you feeling any better?

Tessa: Yeah. Thank you. Thank you so much.

Elena: Of course. And anytime. This is the part of my work that I love the most — telling people good news and making the scary stuff seem a lot more manageable. You’re gonna get through this.

Mariah: I never doubted it for a second.

Noah: [ Crunching popcorn ]

[ Click ]

Allie: Alright, time to place our bets.

Noah: That would be a complete waste of time. It’s obviously the third wife.

Allie: Whoa. It’s the ex-husband.

Noah: Uh…

Allie: Were we listening to the same program?

Noah: Okay, allie, you do realize that the whole object of this is to suss out the guilty party, right? Not the people least likely to have committed the crime. You might have —

Allie: Okay, you are totally ignoring their history.

Noah: It can’t be the husband.

Allie: Explain, but using facts.

Noah: Okay, one, he was devastated by his wife’s betrayal; two, he was seeing the ghost of his dead father; and, three, he was being haunted by the other ghost of his dead wife.

Allie: Right, skeletons in his closet, daily hauntings by spirits accusing him of murder.

Noah: No, no, no, no.

Allie: That still doesn’t put him on top of your suspect pile?

Noah: Emotions are not facts, because there’s incontrovertible proof that the third wife was involved.

Allie: Okay. Name it.

Noah: The neighbor said that they heard strange noises in the middle of the night.

Allie: She was walking in her sleep.

Noah: I think she was chasing her victims.

Allie: Okay, it is the husband, with an ax.

Noah: Unh-unh.

Allie: Mm-hmm.

Noah: Wife, with poison drinks. Alright, look, if you’re so sure of yourself, how about we make this a little bit more interesting.

Allie: It’s already interesting.

Allie: Oh. Oh, u mean like a friendly wager?

Noah: Mm-hmm.

Allie: Okay. Okay, what do you have in mind?

Noah: Alright, if I’m right, which I am, then you owe me six hours.

Allie: Of what?

Noah: Your life. We have to hang out, and you have to laugh at every single one of my jokes.

Allie: Oh, my god.

Noah: Now, it’s up to me whether I want to spread these hours out a little bit or use them all at once.

Allie: Okay. Besides you really knowing how to torture a person, I would go with that. If I win, you have to come running with me.

Noah: That’s not much of a consequence. I’d do that anyway.

Allie: I’m considering training for a marathon, so…

Noah: Okay, um… deal.

Allie: Deal.

Billy: Alright, now let’s shut up and find out…

Noah: Alright.

Allie: …Who is gonna win.

Kyle: Hey, how was your meeting with lander?

Jack: It went great. He sends his congratulations on your new position.

Kyle: Nice of him. Now that we got business out of the way, how are you?

Jack: I hope this isn’t another interrogation about the nature of my relationship with phyllis.

Kyle: I know she’s a touchy subject.

Jack: I am not exactly champing at the bit to share the intricacies of my romantic life with my son.

Kyle: You think I want to talk about your love life? I said I would stay out of it —

Jack: You don’t have enough going on in your own life? You have marchetti, a young family. You shared with me, you still don’t know if you can trust diane.

Kyle: I need to know if she did something underhanded or duplicitous. Now that she’s working for me and marchetti, I can’t get summer’s initial suspicions that my mother was involved out of my head.

Jack: Okay, your mother’s career and my personal life have nothing to do with each other.

Kyle: I can’t be sure about that until you tell me what’s going on. At mariah’s wedding, you and phyllis seemed genuinely happy, and I know you spent the night together. You admitted as much. But then something went wrong.

Jack: Yeah, details of which are no one else’s business but ours.

Kyle: The other night, when phyllis saw all of us together, she looked said and lost. She was trying to keep it civil, but it was clearly difficult for her, and it wasn’t lost on me that my mother was stirring the pot by inviting her over to join us and toasting her.

Jack: It was not an ideal situation.

Kyle: I need you to be completely honest with me, because I need to know if this new relationship I’m building with my mother will work. I want to know if everything she’s doing is aboveboard. So, dad, just tell me. Did my mother do something to sabotage what was happening between you and phyllis?

Jack: I am only going to tell you this because I don’t want you misinterpreting or blaming diane for this situation. I might not trust her, but that’s not fair to her.

Kyle: Okay. I just want to know the truth.

Jack: Yes, I honestly thought phyllis and I were in a good place. Our friendship was strong. We agreed that we weren’t gonna rush anything, we’re gonna take our time. She was there for me when i learned about keemo there in D.A., When I met allie. Of course, that brought in diane. Even that, I thought that would bond us somehow, both finding out that she was alive. I just thought we were in a better place, that maybe there was a chance we could move on to the next level.

Phyllis: Things were going well between me and jack. They were going well. We were in synch, and it was great. And then I screwed up. I just screwed up, and I made a mistake. And it was like the old me.

[ Sighs ] I regret what I did. I shouldn’t have done it. But… summer, having that woman come back into my life, I can’T. I mean, it turned everything upside-down. I mean, jack doesn’t understand. He doesn’t get it. And I regret what I did, and i told him I regret what I did. But, I mean, it was just a knee-jerk reaction, that’s all, because that woman pushes my buttons. She gets to me.

[ Voice breaking ] And sometimes I feel like I’m losing control.

[ Sobs ]

Jack: That is when I realized there was a connection between the two, that this thing between us had escalated, had grown physical because of diane’s reappearance.

Kyle: You don’t think phyllis would intentionally use you like that? She might be reckless, but she doesn’t lie about her feelings.

Jack: That’s the thing. It doesn’t matter if what she’s feeling is real. It’s just as real that she went back to the way she was in the old days. I’m telling you, her worse attributes came out to play as soon as diane came back. All the things she claims she had gotten beyond, all the things that I argued with her, that she’d outgrown. Turns out I was wrong. Turns out that’s not possible.

Kyle: Almost sounds like you’re more willing to give the benefit of the doubt to my mother than phyllis.

Jack: I have decades of history with her, son. She always reverts to type. It’s like a rubber band snapping back. She can’t help herself. She’s got to get her jabs in! She’s got to punish diane, and she can’t just stop. She can’t help herself, and i can’t live with the constant threat that she’s going back to her old self.

Kyle: I mean, I still don’t understand. What exactly did phyllis do?

Jack: She made sure diane witnessed what I foolishly thought was… an intimate, meaningful moment between us.

Phyllis: But what jack refuses to believe is that it didn’t make what happened between us any less important. Of course it was important. I mean, did I want to stick diane’s nose into it? Yeah, I did. Did I escalate things because diane was in town? Yeah! But it doesn’t make him less important to me. And what he doesn’t understand is that — that my feelings were sincere and my feelings are real. He doesn’t — he doesn’t seem to understand that.

Summer: Okay, let me see if i have all of this straight. You moved forward with things with jack, and as much as it was about the bond that you guys shared, it was also about making a point to diane? You were, like, marking your territory?

Noah: Alright, this is it.

Allie: Shh.

Noah: Now, I hope you’re ready for total and complete humiliation, ’cause it’s about to happen.

Allie: Oh, do you, um — do you cry when you lose? I-I just want to know. It’s completely acceptable, but in case I have to get you tissues or call someone to calm you down.

Noah: Oh, yeah, yeah, I cry. I’m gonna be crying with laughter as I watch you suss through all the clues that you’ve gathered and wound up with the wrong conclusion.

Allie: [ Chuckles ] You wish.

Noah: No, I hate to break it to you, but I think your career as a detective is gonna be over before it’s even begun. Alright, I’m done, I’m done. Let’s lock back in. Come on.

Allie: Oh, oh, are we gonna listen to this and find out who the culprit is, or are you just gonna keep talking trash and embarrassing yourself? Because, you know, that’s fine, too.

Noah: Wow, you really are an abbott.

Allie: Spoken like a true newman.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Allie: [ Chuckles ]

[ Click ] Ax. See?

Noah: Mnh-mnh. Arsenic. I told you.

Allie: Minor detail.

Noah: Wait. What —

Allie: Shh!

Noah: The best friend?

Allie: The best friend? How?

Noah: We must have missed something.

Allie: No, that makes no logical sense — zero.

Noah: [ Sighs ] Drang, how does it feel to be so phenomenally wrong?

Allie: Okay, no, you were wrong, too.

Noah: Oh, but not nearly as wrong as you.

Allie: Oh, there are no shades of wrong. Incorrect is incorrect.

Noah: Okay.

Allie: You — I’m sorry, but you are never gonna rise above the ranks of a “mediocre armchair detective.”

Noah: It’s true. Neither will you.

Allie: This was fun. It’s a cute gift. You know, how did you know that I like antiques? I can probably sell this to a museum one day.

Noah: Guess you’ll have to hold on to it, then.

Allie: Yeah. I guess I will.

Kyle: Couldn’t have been easy, finding out that phyllis used you like that. I’m sorry, dad.

Jack: Yeah, you live and you learn.

Jack: I really thought you two would make it work this time.

Jack: So did I.

Kyle: I mean, to be honest… this is concerning. If phyllis still hates my mother that much, to the extent where she would use you to drive her point home, are they headed for a showdown?

Jack: I don’t know. I hope not. But the thought has crossed my mind.

Kyle: Phyllis claimed to my mother that the past was behind them. But if it was that easy for her to relapse, who’s to say she won’t do it again? And if our mothers go to war, what could that do to me and summer?

Phyllis: What was gonna happen between jack and I was inevitable. It was gonna happen. I pushed it along. Did I stick diane’s nose in it? Yeah, I did. And you know what? It felt good, and it was a bonus. But jack knows me well enough to know that I’m sorry. I am sorry, and my feelings for him are real. They are real. They are. And it’s not some act of retribution. It’s not. Really.

Summer: Mom, I’m not judging you, but I do think that jack is one of the most wonderful people I have ever met. And he deserves to be loved and adored and cared for. He deserves a lot better treatment than what you showed him.

Next week on “the young and the restless”…

Sally: “Chile mitchell, C.P.A. Of newman media.” Has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?

Victoria: No more ashland. He’s gone, and he’s out of our lives for good.

Ashland: This time, the target will be much more manageable. Hmm? My wife. [ Sighs ]

Young & The Restless Update

Recap written by Christine

Nikki went to Adam’s office so she could be there for Victoria’s homecoming. She asked if Adam had any idea when Victor would be driving Victoria here from the airport. Adam thought it was telling that the homecoming would be in the CEO’s office and that he wasn’t informed. Nikki said no one was intentionally excluding him. He asked if she had an idea on what his future at Newman might be.

Nikki had no idea what Victoria’s plans were, since Victoria hadn’t been in contact since she left. She wasn’t even sure Victoria was staying for good. Adam said he talked to the pilot, and Victoria was the only person on board and there were no plans to have a return flight. Nikki wouldn’t get her hopes up until she heard from Victoria herself. She said Victoria could just be coming to chew Victor out for blocking her business venture with Ashland. Adam was startled to hear Victor did that. “Is there anything that Dad didn’t do to pave the way for Victoria’s glorious return?,” he asked.

Nikki contended that Victor didn’t pave the way for anyone, and he wasn’t making a calculated move against Adam; Victor was simply trying to protect his daughter. Adam thought that Victoria left town to get away from that famous Victor Newman protection. Nikki didn’t want to get into this with Adam right now. He shifted gears and asked a work question, which she answered. Nikki got a text from Victor saying that the plane landed early and Victoria wasn’t at the airport anymore.

Billy called Victoria to check in, but she didn’t answer. He said it was clear her family was keeping a secret.

Nick met Victoria at a suite in the Grand Phoenix. She greeted her brother with a hug. Victoria had a hotel room because she was having her house deep cleaned to symbolically remove any remnants of Ashland. Nick wanted to know what was going on and why Victoria didn’t want him to tell their parents she was here. He said Nikki and Victor knew Victoria was coming home, and Victor had even planned to surprise Victoria at the airport. She said her flight got in early. She wanted to have a minute alone with Nick before seeing everyone else. He assumed she was upset he betrayed her confidence. She said she actually wanted to thank him.

Victoria said Nick was the only relative who came to her after she announced she was leaving, with no reprimands or judgment, just love. He said he was sincere. He didn’t like what she was doing, but it was her choice to make. He said it was very hard for Victor to accept, since it contradicted what he wanted. Nick asked what happened in NY. Victoria didn’t want to say anything until everyone was at the office. She asked Nick to gather the family. He asked if she was back for good. She said she was, but things would have to change.

Victoria went to the bathroom to freshen up. While there, she had a flashback to her final confrontation with Ashland. She remembered telling him that she didn’t want to see or hear from him again. She called Billy and he asked if she was alright. She said she was better than she’d been in a long time. She’d taken a huge step forward in her life, and there was no looking back now. She said she was back in town, and she’d give him the details after she talked to her family. He asked if Ashland was still in the picture, and she said he was out of her life for good.

Ashland was still in NY brooding over Victoria tricking him. He had a flashback of their last moment together, when she revealed her plot to take back the 250 million dollars he got from Victor. In the present, Ashland called the bank and asked them to reverse the money transfer, but they said no. He ended the call, then he threw his phone across the room. Later, while Victoria was telling Billy that Ashland was out of her life, Ashland chartered a plane to Chicago.

Victoria met Nikki, Nick and Adam at the office. Nikki hugged Victoria and said she wasn’t sure she’d ever see her again. Nikki said that Victoria had seemingly been willing to walk away from the family forever. Victoria was sorry she put them through that, but she had to make the break seem plausible to Ashland. “So it was all a scam? A trick? What have you done, Victoria?,” Adam asked.

Elena was about to leave home for the airport. Nate came home early with a red rose to see her off and say aloha. He wanted to have a meaningful goodbye. He took her hand and lead her upstairs to their bedroom, and a love scene followed. They incorporated the rose, with him running it over her body. Later, they came downstairs and agreed it would be difficult to say goodbye. She wished he could come. He was tempted, but he couldn’t leave work. He said he loved her and would miss her every second. She said she’d send him updates and bring him home some sand from Hawaii. He promised the next trip they took would be work-free. He wanted to drive her to the airport, but she’d already called a car.

Devon was at the park on a run, and he bumped into Chance. They decided to jog together. Chance won the race, and he and Devon joked around, then Devon asked how Chance was doing. Chance channeled his grief over Rey into a something positive. He closed 80% of Rey’s open cases. Devon was sure Rey was smiling down on Chance. He was impressed that Chance seemed to be in a better headspace. Chance said Devon’s support had a positive impact. Devon also knew he’d made things messier than they needed to be when it came to Dominic. Chance knew Devon wanted the best for their baby, and all that mattered was that things worked out well.

Lily met Amanda and Imani at Society and asked about their mom. Imani had just come back from seeing Naya, who was still struggling with her speech and mobility. Amanda said they were worried about Naya’s psychological state, since she was stuck in the hospital bed. Imani said that it seemed to lift Naya’s spirits when they visited. Lily told the sisters that they could take time off whenever they wanted to go visit. Abby stopped by and talked about the launch party. She’d missed running events. Lily asked what happened to Abby’s plans to build a hotel across the street from The Grand Phoenix. Abby sighed that it was a long story.

Abby said Phyllis fought her tooth and nail from the beginning, so Abby gave up. Amanda said Phyllis just didn’t like the idea of a competing hotel across the street. Lily wanted to revisit the idea of having another hotel in town. Devon sold the Athletic Club, and Lily was thinking Chancellor Winters needed a place to have visiting talent stay and conferences, events and concerts. “Maybe I could build an even grander phoenix in Genoa City,” Lily said. Lily said dealing with Phyllis was a potential headache, and using the Grand Phoenix would cut into profits, so she wanted to open a Chancellor Winters hotel. Abby hated giving up The Grand Phoenix to Phyllis. Lily wondered if they could get Phyllis to sell. Amanda didn’t think Phyllis would let the hotel go after all she poured into it. Lily had no problem opening a different hotel and going head to head with Phyllis.

Devon and Amanda met up at home and kissed. She started crying about her mom. Amanda was worried for Imani too. She said she and Imani were both putting on a brave face, but sooner or later, Imani’s walls would have to come down. Amanda was really frustrated because, as a lawyer, if you were prepared, things would usually go as expected, but in your personal life, there were things you couldn’t control. Devon knew what Amanda was going through. He lost a lot of people – Dru, Neil, Hilary and their child. Amanda was sorry, but he said she didn’t have to be. He said sometimes all you could do was your best. He told her that it was fine if Imani wanted to act like what was happening with their mom didn’t bother her, but Amanda didn’t have to do that because she had him. She said he’d given her an emotional security she never had before. It was comforting and empowering, but it was also scary because it felt so fragile. She was scared it would go away and she’d be alone. He put her hand on his chest and told her as long as his heart was beating, she’d never be alone again. They kissed.

Nate ran into Imani at Crimson Lights. He asked about her mom. Unfortunately, Naya wasn’t great. Nate asked if Imani had anything she wanted to talk about. She did. She said she looked into getting Elena out of the AskMDNow contract so she could start a Chancellor Winters podcast. Unfortunately, Elena’s contract with Newman Media was airtight, and it wouldn’t be easy to break it. Imani knew that Nate wanted to get this done before Elena was back from Hawaii. Nate said Elena was boarding the flight now. Imani said she and Nate would have to work together to figure this out. He said thanks. He wanted Elena to work with them, so he was counting on Imani to make that happen. He also had to do everything he could to fulfill the promise he made at the launch party. They didn’t currently have 50 podcasts to deliver yet. She was glad he confided in her. She felt a little responsible since she was the one who encouraged him to go big during his speech. He thought they should meet with Sally Spectra, the new head of Newman Media. Imani said she’d set up a meeting. Nate stepped away, and Imani quietly made a dinner reservation for two. When Nate returned, Imani lied and said she’d gotten a meeting with Sally and made dinner reservations for the three of them.

Chance went to Society and talked with Abby and Lily. Chance had some time off after all the overtime, so he spent time with Dominic, then he went on a run and now he hoped to spend time with Abby. Lily left them alone. Chance felt he’d been neglecting Abby since he’d been so busy at work. Chance and Abby had a picnic in the park. He showed her a picture of Dom that he took this morning. Abby assured Chance that she didn’t feel neglected. She was proud of the way he was honoring Rey’s memory. His dedication to his partner made her love him even more. They kissed. Chance got a tip on one of Rey’s cases that had to be dealt with right away. He was going to let someone else deal with it, but she encouraged him to go and see his personal mission through. He wanted to spend uninterrupted time with him. She said it meant so much that he put this together for her, and they had the rest of their lives to go on picnics together. They exchanged I love yous and he left.

Lily and Billy met at work. She wanted to tell him about an interesting conversation with Abby. He interrupted to say that Victoria was back. He had no idea how much this was weighing on him until now. He’d been dreading telling the kis that their mom left town. He felt inspired to lighten up his podcast and have a little fun. He said he could talk about how they had to trust the people they surrounded themselves with. Lily didn’t think the disastrous end to a dramatic relationship was cause for celebration. He said he’d turn it around and say a dramatic end to a disastrous relationship was inspiring. “Victoria is back where she belongs,” he said.

Lauren: Oh. You think so, huh?

[ Deep voice ] “I’m calling on behalf of Victor Newman. This is what we want. Get it done.”

Michael: No. The voice was wrong, but the words were right. Look, I’m doing my job. And I’m doing it damn well, by the way.

Lauren: Oh, I never said anything about the way you’re doing your job. It’s the nature of your job that I have an issue with.

Michael: And like I said, there is nothing criminal going on. And there’s no longer any danger of me landing in some foreign prison again.

Lauren: Oh, so you say. You’re working for Victor Newman, so never say never.

Michael: You know, maybe we don’t have to wait for another vacation to find… time for romance. Do you have any free time now? We could have lunch… back at our place… maybe in the bedroom.

Lauren: [Laughing] Oh, you are too much. It’s a good thing you’re so handsome and sexy.

Michael: It’s a package deal.

Lauren: Mmm, and I love the package. It’s just that I’ve got to get back to work. I don’t have time to go back home.

Michael: Mwah! You can’t blame a guy for trying.

Lauren: Ah, wait a minute. Wait a minute. I said I didn’t have time to go back home. But I never said anything about getting a room upstairs. Hmm? What do you think?

Victor: Billy boy, this is a family discussion, okay? If I were you, I’d continue wallowing in that trivial crap to prepare for your next stupid podcast. Okay?

Billy: Ooh! You’re a listener. Hot damn. I’m gonna have to tell the team. They’re gonna be ecstatic about that. Now, personally, I’m more interested in this dramatic family discussion that we’re having. Have we heard from Victoria?

Nikki: The answer is no. None of us have spoken to her today.

Billy: But you know something? Don’t try to deny it because I know that I’m right. You know, I wasn’t exactly thrilled about the concept of having a conversation with Johnny and Katie about why their parents are living so far apart. However, I am thrilled for Victoria that she’s finally breaking free and walking away from the man that’s been pulling at her strings since she was in diapers. It’s a shock to the system, huh, pops?

Nick: Billy, what mom said was the truth. We don’t know anything specific. We were just talking about how frustrating it is. And it’s a family matter, so… bye.

Billy: It’s all good. I’m sure I’ll hear from her. Probably even before you do because we do share those kids together. Facts of life. Enjoy.

**********************

Victoria: I could never leave my family. And the fact that you would think that shows how little you know me.

Ashland: I-I-I’m sorry. I still don’t know that i understand. So, you’re going back to your family to ask forgiveness…

Victoria: No.

Ashland: …Without even telling me.

Victoria: I had every intention of telling you everything. You just caught me off guard by coming back here so soon.

[Breathes deeply] The plan was to have my bags packed and be ready to go and have a moment to compose myself so I could decide exactly what I wanted to say to you. Oh, well. Here it goes. You and I will not be forming a new corporation together. And this move to New York was not about starting a new life with you. It was a calculated move to cut ties with you and to end your connection with me and my family for good. You know, you did everything exactly as I hoped you would do. You agreed to invest your own money, and you transferred what was left of the $500 million that my father gave you into the corporate account that I created. By the way, I have since drained that account, and now you have exactly what you deserve. Nothing. So maybe now you have a clearer understanding of exactly who I am… and what you’re dealing with

Recap written by Christine

Phyllis was at the hotel. She made a phone call instructing someone to get more customers to buy spa packages. Diane walked in, and Phyllis ended the call. In light of their truce, Diane was hoping she’d get full access to The Grand Phoenix gym and spa. Phyllis believed that the GCAC’s equipment was adequate. Diane figured she could be honest, now that they were family – she felt Phyllis’s equipment was a cut above. In addition, Diane loved Astrid, the masseuse at The Grand Phoenix. Phyllis said the two hotels had an agreement not to poach each other’s clients, and the spa was booked. Diane thought she heard Phyllis saying she was desperate for more clients. Phyllis claimed Diane misunderstood. Phyllis added that she had the right to refuse service to anyone. Diane said she wasn’t doing anything wrong. Phyllis noted that Diane had been escorted off the premises before. Diane countered that this happened back when they were bitter rivals. If that ban still held, it meant the truce wasn’t real. Diane said she knew people would be disappointed by that. “Are you gonna tattle on me if I don’t give you an appointment at my hotel?,” Phyllis asked. Summer walked up. Diane explained that she wanted to spend money at Phyllis’s hotel, since Phyllis had been generous enough to declare a truce. Summer told Phyllis that was a nice gesture. Phyllis changed her tune and welcomed Diane with open arms.

Summer was impressed the truce was off to a promising start. Diane said she’d do anything for Kyle. Phyllis replied that she’d also do anything for her children. She added that she’d done things for Kyle when he didn’t have a mom around. Diane said that since she would be working so closely at Marchetti, it was imperative that they got along. Phyllis pretended there was a cancellation, which meant there was suddenly room at the spa for Diane. She said she’d gift Diane a very special resurrection spa treatment. Diane replied that she was dying to hear more. Phyllis said people described it as feeling like coming back from the dead. Diane thought that sounded too expensive, but she was worth it. Diane called Summer her good luck charm, since a spa appointment just happened to open up when Summer arrived. Phyllis welcomed Diane to the spa, and Diane left for her appointment.

Summer asked Phyllis what that was. Phyllis said she was trying her best to keep the peace, while Diane was being passive-aggressive, acting like an angel. “What I heard was Diane not taking the bait from you,” Summer replied. Summer knew this wasn’t easy, but she loved that Phyllis was trying. Summer said she and Kyle were counting on Phyllis to take the high road. Phyllis suggested it wasn’t a good idea to trust Diane to work at Marchetti. Summer asked if Phyllis was trying to make trouble. Phyllis insisted that she was just trying to protect Summer. Phyllis stated that Summer was too young to remember what Diane was like and what she’d done to Phyllis. Summer thought Diane was just eager to get back to work. Summer explained that she and Kyle were just trying to set Diane up for success. Phyllis was stunned that Summer had accepted Diane as an accepted member of this family. She assumed Kyle and Jack had accepted Diane too.

Summer said the question wasn’t whether they’d all accepted Diane – it was about why Phyllis felt the need to plant seeds of doubt. Phyllis said she was trying to be the voice of reason, but Summer thought Phyllis was doing this because of something that happened recently. Summer wanted to know why Phyllis and Jack broke up. Summer knew it had something to do with Diane. Phyllis said what was done was done. Summer said she wouldn’t judge if Phyllis made a mistake and did something to push Jack away. “I find it very interesting that you think I was the one who was wrong,” Phyllis replied. Summer reminded Phyllis that she’d previously admitted to Summer that she screwed up. Summer asked what happened. Phyllis said to ask Jack. Summer had, and he told her there was nothing to tell. Summer wasn’t going to accept that, because she saw that Phyllis and Jack were both hurting. Phyllis couldn’t accept that Jack let Diane back into the family after everything that bitch had done to Phyllis. Phyllis was sorry about what happened, and she felt bad. Summer implored Phyllis to open up about what happened.

At the Abbott house, Allie told Jack that she wanted to take the internship at Jabot. He was delighted, and he was sure Ashley would be too. Allie didn’t want anyone to think that she was trying to take advantage of the Abbott family. She wanted to be sure that he wasn’t offering her this internship because of her DNA. She wanted this opportunity to be based purely on merit and not out of guilt he felt for missing out on years with her dad. It never crossed his mind that she came her for mercenary reasons. He thought Jabot was lucky ot have someone with her graduate education in that position. He said there were discussions that she might get bored. She was sure that wouldn’t happen, because she loved the Jabot lab. He was thrilled she was interested in learning the family business and sticking around for awhile. She felt like she was starting to find her footing. Noah dropped by, and Jack left for a meeting.

Noah asked how Allie felt about surprises. In general, she hated them, but she said she’d try to keep an open mind. He had an old radio mystery show for her to listen to. It wasn’t online, so he put it on an old mp3 player for her. She chuckled about the ancient technology and said she thought she’d heard of mp3 players. She told him he was full of surprises. She didn’t know how to turn the mp3 player on, so he helped her, and he gave her a set of earbuds to listen now, because he wanted to see her reaction. She didn’t want to be observed like a science experiment. She handed him an earbud so he could listen too.

Allie and Noah had a montage of moments enjoying the podcast. She said it was like stepping into a time machine back to the streets of London in 1919. She said this was way better than a movie. He said there was one thing they were missing. She said popcorn. She was a popcorn making expert, since it was simple science. They playfully argued over who got to keep the mp3 player while she made popcorn, and they eventually decided to go to the kitchen together. They returned with popcorn and debated who the killer was. Noah suggested a bet – if he was right, she’d owe him six hours of her life – they’d hang out, and she had to laugh at all his jokes. She said if she won, he’d have to go running with her, and she was considering training for a marathon. They shook on the wager and resumed the radio mystery.

Just before the end of the radio episode, Allie and Noah trash talked each other. He joked that she really was an Abbott, and she teased back that he sounded like a true Newman. They played the story again, and he was going to say something, but she rested her finger on his lips. The touch caught them both off guard, and they looked at each other, then leaned in for a kiss. Before their lips touched, the radio story got their attention again. The killer was someone out of left field that neither of them guessed. He said she was more wrong than he was, but she contended that there were no shades of wrong. She thought the mp3 player was a cute gift, and she called it an antique.

Kyle found Tessa and Mariah at Crimson Lights. He didn’t notice their somber mood, and he went on and on about scoring great seats for Summer and himself to Tessa’s upcoming concert. He said Summer had been singing all the songs. Kyle finally saw the look on Tessa’s face and asked what was wrong. Mariah said Tessa had an appointment with a specialist this morning, and she was diagnosed with vocal cord nodules. The doctor recommended surgery followed by vocal training. Tessa would have to postpone her tour indefinitely. Kyle was so sorry. Tessa said she had so much riding on this tour. She was worried about what all this time out of the spotlight would do to her career. Mariah said Tessa’s health was most important. This wasn’t ideal, Mariah conceded, but at least it wasn’t more serious. She assured Tessa that they’d do all they could to preserve Tessa’s voice and career. Tessa tried to be optimistic, but she felt like she was disappointing her fans. Kyle said the fans would rally around Tessa and support her. Kyle suggested a second opinion. Mariah said they were meeting Elena soon – her uncle Jett had something similar, and she was instrumental in his recovery.

Kyle put a positive spin on things and said this would give Tessa and Mariah more time to focus on the adoption plans. Mariah said they put that on hold for awhile to deal with this. Tessa said that Mariah thought Tessa should heal first. Mariah promised they’d meet their child. They shifted gears, and Mariah said everyone at Jabot was buzzing about Kyle being back. Tessa said no one was more excited than Mariah. Kyle broke the news that he was the new CEO of Marchetti. Tessa was excited, but Mariah didn’t want Kyle to ditch her at Jabot. He said he wasn’t ditching anyone, or leaving Jabot, he was just running the newest acquisition. It had been fun running the family business with his dad, but when Summer came to him with this proposition, he couldn’t say no. he hoped Mariah would eventually be happy for him. Mariah said Kyle being home was amazing, and he’d even made Summer likable. Kyle was glad Mariah finally liked Summer. Kyle said that Summer was the love of his life.

Elena arrived, and Kyle went to meet his dad. Elena mentioned having a plane to catch to Hawaii. Elena sat down with Mariah and Tessa. Tessa asked if her singing career was over. After talking to Tessa’s doctor and after her experience with her uncle, Elena believed Tessa would recover. Unfortunately, there were no promises, Elena said, but she thought Tessa should be optimistic about her recovery as long as she continued to follow doctor’s recommendations. Tessa asked about Elena’s uncle. According to Elena, Jett had the surgery, and he went on tour, and he’d just released a new single. Tessa asked about a time frame. That was hard to predict, so Elena said to think of this as a detour and not to rush the recovery. Elena said Tessa’s voice was her instrument, and she should protect it. The ENT Tessa saw was a good doctor, in Elena’s view – the same one her uncle saw. Elena would give some recommendations if Tessa wanted a second opinion. Tessa said it couldn’t hurt. Elena loved this part of her job – giving people good news.

Kyle and Jack met at Society after Jack’s business meeting. Kyle asked how Jack was. Jack hoped this wasn’t another interrogation about his relationship with Phyllis. He didn’t want to talk about his romantic life with his son. Kyle didn’t want to talk about Jack’s love life either, but he needed to know if Diane had something to do with Jack and Phyllis’s breakup. Kyle said Phyllis and Jack were happy at Mariah and Tessa’s wedding, and they spent the night together, which Kyle knew because Jack admitted it. Then something went wrong. Jack said that the details were no one’s business but Jack and Phyllis’s. Kyle saw how sad Phyllis looked the other night when she saw them all with Diane. Kyle knew his mom stirred the pot by inviting Phyllis to join them. Jack said that wasn’t ideal. Kyle needed to know if this new relationship he was building with his mother would work. “Did my mother do something to sabotage what was happening between you and Phyllis?,” Kyle asked.

Jack was only telling Kyle this so he didn’t misinterpret things or blame Diane for this. Jack didn’t’ trust Diane, but it wouldn’t be fair if she got blamed for this. Jack explained that he and Phyllis had grown closer, and they were taking it slowly, and he’d thought they might take their relationship to the next level. Eventually, he learned that his relationship with Phyllis had grown physical because of Diane’s reappearance.

He’d thought he and Phyllis were in a good place – they’d agreed not to rush things. Phyllis was there when he learned about Keemo and when they found out Diane was alive. Kyle didn’t think Phyllis would intentionally use Jack – she might be reckless, but she didn’t lie about her feelings. Jack said it didn’t matter if Phyllis’s feelings were real. He said that Phyllis’s worst attributes came out to play when Diane returned. All the things Phyllis claimed she’d gotten beyond, and all the things that Jack had told Phyllis that she’d outgrown came back. Jack said it turned out he was wrong about Phyllis changing. Kyle thought it was like Jack was more willing to give Diane the benefit of the doubt than Phyllis. Jack said he had decades of history with Phyllis, and she always reverted to type. He contended that Phyllis couldn’t help herself, and he couldn’t live with the constant threat of her going back to her old self. Kyle didn’t understand what Phyllis did. Jack said Phyllis made sure Diane witnessed what he’d foolishly thought was a meaningful intimate moment between him and Phyllis.

Kyle was sorry about what happened to Jack. He was also concerned Phyllis hated his mother enough to use his father to drive her point home. He wondered if Phyllis and Diane would have a showdown. Jack had wondered the same thing. Kyle said Phyllis claimed she put the past with Diane behind her, but if she’d relapsed that easily, she could do so again. “And if our mothers go to war, what could that do to me and Summer?,” Kyle asked.

Back at the hotel, Phyllis talked to Summer. Phyllis said that things were going well between her and Jack, then she screwed up and made a mistake that the old her would’ve made. Phyllis said having Diane come into her life turned everything upside down, and she made a knee-jerk reaction because Diane pushed her buttons. Phyllis admitted she’d escalated the speed of her relationship with Jack because Diane was in town, and she rubbed Diane’s nose in it. But that didn’t make Jack less important to Phyllis. She said he didn’t seem to understand her feelings for him were real. “What was gonna happen between Jack and I was inevitable. It was gonna happen. I pushed it along. Did I stick Diane’s nose in it? Yeah, I did. And you know what? It felt good and it was a bonus. But Jack knows me well enough to know that I’m sorry,” Phyllis said. She was adamant that her feelings for Jack were real.

Diane was coming back from the spa, and she stopped to eavesdrop on the discussion. Summer didn’t judge Phyllis, but she said Jack was one of the most wonderful men she’d ever met, and he deserved better treatment than Phyllis showed him.

Nikki: I hope you’re right about victoria, that whatever this plan of yours is, it will work.

Victor: Yeah, I don’t have any more news than what I’ve told you earlier, okay? But I have a good feeling about this.

Nikki: With very little basis for it.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Victor: Well, we’ll soon find out.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] Whatever that means.

Victor: It means that the pilot has some interesting news about the company jet. Hmm.

Nick: [ Sighs ]

Nikki: Hi, honey. You heading home?

Nick: Yeah, I got some work i got to do.

Victor: No, son, just hang on for a moment. You need to know this.

Nick: Know what? Is there news?

Victor: Well, the pilot has informed me that… victoria filed a flight plan to new york, and then right back to genoa city.

Nikki: [ Gasps ] She’s coming home?

Nick: How many passengers?

Victor: She’s by herself.

Nikki: Oh, thank god. Thank god.

Nick: Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, all right? We haven’t actually spoken to her, so we don’t know what any of this means.

Billy: Why so serious?

Ashland: Oh. What’s going on?

Sally: Chloe doesn’t have to be a fan of yours to be an amazing right hand for me.

Adam: [ Sighs ] You know what? You’re right. Just forget I said anything, okay? I want you to have whatever you need to do your best here.

Sally: Thank you. I appreciate that.

Adam: So if you think chloe is a good fit for coo of newman media, then bring her aboard. Convince her it’s a good fit, regardless of her feelings for me.

Sally: Well, if chloe really wants to end her partnership with chelsea, I want to scoop her up before anybody else does.

Adam: Well, like I said before, chelsea came by earlier. She was there to have me sign some papers for connor’s camp, but I could tell that she was, uh, struggling.

Sally: Because of rey rosales’ passing. Yeah, chloe said that she’s been having a hard time.

Adam: Connor is, too. But true to form, she’s using work as a crutch. She’s avoiding her emotional well-being, and it has created a rift between her and chloe.

Sally: Well, that’s an understatement, because based on what she told me, chloe is truly at the end of her rope.

Adam: Yeah. It’s gonna be even more of an issue if she decides to accept the gig to do a new line for marchetti.

Sally: What?

Adam: Mm.

Sally: Well, I knew the company was moving here, but why would marchetti switch designers?

Adam: I don’t know. I don’t know, but summer wants to hire chelsea, apparently.

Sally: Well, it’s an incredible opportunity.

Adam: But she already thinks chloe is trying to micromanage her. And chloe doesn’t want her to take the job at marchetti because she thinks she can’t even handle the workload she already has.

Sally: Well, do you think chloe’s right?

Adam: I know chloe is right, because I know chelsea, and I made my thoughts on that subject very clear.

Sally: How did she respond to that?

Adam: She got defensive and accused me of criticizing her. She just — she’s not listening to any reason.

I mean, chloe wouldn’t badmouth a friend, but I can tell she’s just about had it. Chelsea isn’t holding up her end of the partnership, which is causing a strain on their friendship, too. Though, maybe parting ways… is the best thing for both of them.

Chelsea: Let’s see if I have the whole list of sins. I’m inconsiderate, ungrateful, I don’t send 100 apologetic text messages when I’m gonna be 5 minutes late.

Chloe: It was over an hour, chelsea — this time. You’re bitchy to me, you pick fights, I am tap dancing every damn day around the people who actually make our clothes because you’ve suddenly decided that deadlines are optional.

Chelsea: I’ve been under a lot of stress, too, okay? In case you haven’t noticed.

Chloe: Oh, my god, I have noticed. It’s like I have —

[ Breathes deeply ] You’re allver the place. I can’t keep up. I mean, I have tried every way I know how to help you navigate your emotional ups and downs. Meanwhile, all I get is snark and putdowns. You call me controlling. Well, you’re impossible. Things can’t go on this way.

Chelsea: “Things can’t go on this way”? What do you mean by that, exactly?

Additional sponsorship

provided by… my blood pressure is borderline.

Sally: So, I have your blessing to make chloe an offer?

Adam: [ Breathes deeply ] Yes, madam C.E.O. Hire away.

Sally: Ooh, madam ceo — I like that. I just hope the timing is right.

Adam: Look, I know I said not to worry about chloe hating my guts, but she does. She always will, so… no matter how civil we are to each other.

Sally: Do you hate her back?

Adam: No. No, not at all. I didn’t have any issues with chloe when we were creating the fashion platform. In fact, in the brief time it was up and running, I thought we did some pretty good things. I just — I don’t know if it’s still a problem for her. That’s all.

Sally: Well, I mean, it’s not as though she’d be working for

you this time. She would be my direct report, and you promised me autonomy.

Adam: Mm-hmm, and you will have it, ’cause I have total faith in your judgment.

Sally: Well, if I had a nickel for every person who told me that, I would have… a nickel.

Adam: I don’t think our old conflicts are gonna be a stumbling block for chloe but just something to keep in mind when you’re negotiating with her.

Sally: Yeah. No, I will just focus on how great it is to work here and the fabulous job that I know she will do.

Adam: Great. Knowing the media arm is in good hands, now I can focus on other areas.

Sally: Oh. So the better chloe and I do, the less she’ll see of you.

Adam: Bonus.

Sally: Okay. Then I’m — I’m gonna do this.

Adam: Great. And, honestly, I think dissolving the partnership is gonna be good for chelsea in the long run. This way, she can take the job at marchetti.

Sally: I love how supportive you are of people who matter to you. Including me.

Adam: If I ever neglect to show you how grateful I am for you —

Sally: Never happen. Because I intend to make it easy for you to keep showing me… every day.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Adam: Um, someone has lousy timing.

Sally: Mm-hmm.

Adam: What the —

Sally: Problem?

Adam: The newman jet is en route to new york. I booked it to go to pittsburgh with connor for the game tonight.

Sally: Yeah, I remember. Some father-son time.

Adam: Yeah, well, now I have no way to get there. Um… it must have been dad who bumped me. He’s one of the few people that can make them.

Adam: I just — I don’t know why this sudden and urgent need to, uh, go to new york. Yeah. Hey, it’s adam newman. I got your text. Um, why is the jet going to new york? Who requested it? Victoria?

Victor: Billy boy, this is a family discussion, okay? If I were you, I’d continue wallowing in that trivial crap to prepare for your next stupid podcast. Okay?

Billy: Ooh! You’re a listener. Hot damn. I’m gonna have to tell the team. They’re gonna be ecstatic about that. Now, personally, I’m more interested in this dramatic family discussion that we’re having. Have we heard from victoria?

Nikki: The answer is no. None of us have spoken to her today.

Billy: But you know something? Don’t try to deny it, because I know that I’m right.

Enjoy.

Nikki: Thanks for sending him on his way.

Victor: That man is consummate pain in the ass, you know? And why he’s still involved in our family is beyond me, but such it is.

Nick: Let’s not waste any time on billy, all right? The only thing we need to concentrate on right now is making sure victoria is okay.

Victor: You’re right. You’re right.

Ashland: Uh, were you planning to sneak off without me?

Victoria: No, of course not. What are you doing back here so soon?

Ashland: Well, I left my tablet behind. It’s got all of our new company information on it, our corporate account number, login credentials, that kind of thing, so…

Victoria: It’s very lucky you remembered it.

Ashland: Yeah, it is. It would’ve been pretty lame if I couldn’t back up our interest in buying a big building in new york city with this proof of funding, which, of course, I can, because… because now we put our money together in a big account — $500 million. I’m sorry. Weren’t you — weren’t you on your way to the lawyer’s office?

[ Cellphone chimes ] Victor’s text to you. What’s that about?

Victoria: I have no idea.

Ashland: Oh. No, I’m sorry. I’m just, uh… very interested in what victor might have to say to you right now. It’s, uh… “jet is on the way. Are you all right?” Evidently, you were planning on sneaking off.

Victoria: No.

Ashland: Victoria… don’t lie to me. When you really need to sleep.

Chelsea: Are you quitting? Abandoning our deal with fenmore? Leaving me in the lurch with marchetti? You wouldn’t possibly consider dissolving our partnership, because without me, there is no business.

Chloe: See? There you go. Right there. Zero to 60 in a millisecond. When I say this isn’t working, it means I want to find a way that it caN. A new approach to our partnership so that we are both operating at our best. A better way of communicating that doesn’t involve you getting so angry and defensive.

Chelsea: I can’t believe I’m hearing this for my supposed best friend. Things don’t always go smoothly, chloe. That’s the nature of collaboration. I thought you knew that.

Chloe: That’s not what I’m saying.

Chelsea: What I do is not easy. Coming up with new ideas all the time? You act like just anybody can do it. You know what? I am sick of you not appreciating what I bring to the table.

Chloe: How dare you say that? After all I’ve done for you.

Chelsea: All you’ve done for me?

Adam: Right. Well, thank you for letting me know.

Sally: What does this have to do with victoria?

Adam: She’s the one that sent for the jet, and dad signed off on it.

Sally: You’ve got to be kidding me.

Adam: Mm-hmm. Soon as she boards at laguardia, the pilot is coming back here immediately with victoria as the sole passenger.

Sally: What could that possibly mean?

Adam: Can only mean one thing. Dad’s made up his mind. Victoria’s in, I am out. That’s it. Game over. Okay. Dad got his wish. The return of the prodigal daughter.

Sally: Okay, slow down. You went right to the worst-case scenario. We don’t know that’s what’s happening.

Adam: Yes, we do. We do. Sally, you don’t know these people like I do. Machiavellian behavior is the newman stock in trade.

Sally: Okay. Well, the way you described the blowout with victoria and her family before she left, turning her back on all of you forever, not telling you where she and ashland were going, doesn’t really sound like a woman who ever planned on looking back.

Adam: Exactly. You just made my point for me. So, what changed?

Victoria: I’m not lying to you. I have no reason to lie. I sent for the jet. It’s taking me genoa city.

Ashland: I see. Did — did victor get to you? Did he issue some kind of ultimatum?

Victoria: No, ashland. This decision is mine and mine alone. My father had nothing to do with it.

Ashland: Okay. So, um… so I guess this separation has been more challenging for you than — than I thought. I mean, cutting — cutting ties with your family, moving a thousand miles away — it’s — it’s a lot.

Victoria: I regret some of the things that I said to them, but it was necessary.

Ashland: In order for you to prove your independence.

Victoria: Yes.

Ashland: But now you’re having second thoughts about walking away from your family?

Victoria: I could never leave my family. And the fact that you would think that shows how little you know me.

Ashland: I-I-I’m sorry. I still don’t know that i understand. So you’re going back to your family to ask forgiveness…

Victoria: No.

Ashland: …Without even telling me.

Victoria: I had every intention of telling you everything. You just caught me off guard by coming back here so soon.

[ Breathes deeply ] The plan was to have my bags packed and be ready to go and have a moment to compose myself so I could decide exactly what I wanted to say to you. Nothing. So maybe now you have a clearer understanding of exactly who I am… and what you’re dealing with. Most bladder leak pads were similar.

Chloe: Look. I am not keeping score. But I have come through for you so many times. As a result of your medical issues — which were not your fault — you went down a dark path, and you made me your unwitting co-conspirator.

Chelsea: And clearly, you still hold a grudge against me for that.

Chloe: No, of course not. But kevin works for the police, and if my involvement habecome part of the original investigation, we would’ve been in a lot of trouble.

Chelsea: Which is why I went along with victor’s plan. I confessed evetothing, and I went to the hospital. I protected you. So please don’t act like this is a one-sided friendship.

Chloe: All I am saying is that you worry yourself. Your whole life had gone off the rails. And you needed time. You needed time to heal and recover. You couldn’t even think about working.

Chelsea: And now you’re throwing that in my face?

Chloe: I am reminding you that even at your lowest, I was there, like always. I bent over backwards to buy you time. I worked for adam for you. I set up the whole fashion platform for you so that you would have a safe place to land, doing the work that you love once you felt well enough. I mean, I did what it took to keep things going, even though you left me dangling, claiming that you weren’t even sure if you wanted the job. I-I practically begged you to come back to work with me because I knew that it would be good for you and because I love working with you.

Chelsea: Well, lately, it doesn’t seem like that.

Chloe: I find it impossible to comprehend that you would even suggest that I don’t appreciate your talent. That I am not a good enough friend to you? That hurts. Yes, I am trying to find a way to make our partnership work, but I am also trying to preserve our friendship.

Sally: Victoria made this big declaration of independence and tied it to a man whose entire life is based on lies, who claims — how did he word it? — That he has been changed by victoria’s love?

Adam: Yeah, what a crock. I never, ever believed that.

Sally: Yeah, well, she certainly seemed to. So maybe, now that victoria has calmed down, she regrets the way she left things here, and maybe she’s coming back to make peace with her folks so they can continue to be a part of her life, even if it’s not the life that mommy and daddy envisioned for her.

Adam: I suppose that could be the case.

Sally: Victoria seems like a practical woman. She’s gonna want to know that she has her family’s support in case she ever needs it.

Adam: Or maybe ashland already pulled some new crap.

Sally: Could be.

Adam: Something that finally opened her eyes and made her realize everything that she had given up.

Sally: If victoria is so in love with the guy that she forgave for the whole faking cancer scam, I doubt that she would turn on him so fast because she’s too proud and she’s invested too much time.

Adam: Well, there could be a lot that we don’t know.

Sally: I get that. So we can’t rule out anything, like the possibility that, yes, maybe she is trying to come back to reclaim her place at newman. Keyword — “try.” Because if that is the case, she’s gonna have you to contend with.

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Sally: [ Scoffs ] Look, we have come way too far, babe. Don’t panic. It’s not gonna do us any good. It’s just gonna cloud our thinking when we need to be at our sharpest.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Good point. Thank you.

Sally: Any time.

Adam: What we need is more information. We need to figure out what we’re dealing with so we can act accordingly.

Nikki: I want to believe that victoria came to her senses, that something happened to make her realize that she made a terrible mistake.

Nick: That’s what we all hope.

Victor: Certainly possible.

Nikki: Or…could she be coming here to confront you about discouraging those investors behind her back? Because she was very clear about you interfering in her life any more.

Nick: Maybe ashland realized that he would always be facing that kind of hostility and decided he’d had enough. I mean, do you think there’s a chance that he broke things off?

Nikki: I just cannot bear the thought of that man hurting victoria again.

Victoria: Did you really think that I was so completely under your spell that you could just do anything that you wanted to do, and I would forgive you for it? Every single minute we were together was a lie. It was a massive betrayal. I loved you. I cared about you while you pretended to be overwhelmed by your illness. I suffered at the prospect of watching you die over this non-existent disease. Every day — every single day — I felt dread in the pit of my stomach over this. And when I learned the truth of — of what you had done, it didn’t just break my heart, it crushed me. Yeah, I know, I know, I know. You saved my life by pulling me from…a burning car. But, honestly, I’m not sure that that was really a selfless act.

Ashland: I saved your life because I couldn’t bear the thought of losing you.

Victoria: That wasn’t enough to erase what you did to me and my entire family. You didn’t deserve that payoff money from my dad. And giving half of the money to nicholas? That was a transparent act. You did it to impress me and to try to ease your guilt. I don’t even know if you’re capable of feeling guilt. I doubt it. I decided that I wasn’t going to let you take anything from them. So I came up with a plan to get it back — by lying to you and deceiving you the same way that you did to me.

I’m a ganiac, ganiac,

check my drawers.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Victor: Well, I, for one, am going to assume that victoria is in control of the situation. And that it was her decision to come back home.

Nikki: Let’s say you’re right that victoria’s coming home for good. Then what? Have you made any long-term decisions about where adam fits into the company?

Victor: I’m not going to make any decisions right now until I’ve talked to victoria.

Nick: I think that’s wise, dad. Even if victoria is leaving this jerk, I think she meant what she said about wanting her independence. And everything’s up in the air until we actually talk to victoria and figure out what’s going on.

Victoria: I know that you view the world in terms of profits and losses. It drives everything that you do. You have to win at all costs. I don’t even think you’re capable of feeling remorse. And certainly not love. But there it is right there, in black and white. Balance — zero. Your fortune is gone, and I know that hits you right where you live.

Ashland: This isn’t what you want.

Victoria: How the hell do you know what I really want, huh?

[ Scoffs ] That’s why I was able to pull this off so easily. Because you’re so arrogant. You think that you have this hold on me that nobody can break.

Ashland: Our love was not a scam. It was real.

Victoria: Yes, it was. It was. At least on my part. And, yes, I held on to those residual feelings a little bit longer than I should have when I learned the truth about you. But every word that I have said to you since I got back from switzerland has been a lie.

Ashland: Right. And I should have known something was wrong when you insisted on taking things slowly.

Victoria: Yeah, because you wanted to believe all the bull that I told you about starting over again. It’s the, um…secret of any successful con.

Ashland: Yes, it is. You got me. Congratulations.

Victoria: Well, so I’ve bared my entire soul to you. I think maybe it’s only fair — and I’m dying to know — how does it feel? How does it feel to be so completely wrong about me? To be bested and stripped of all of your ill gotten gains?

Ashland: You do understand you’ve just committed fraud.

Victoria: [ Laughs ] Fraud? Oh, that’s, um…

[ Laughing ] That is so rich coming from you. Someone who has lived all of their adult life under a fraudulent name, who built his entire fortune on a stolen inheritance, who defrauded everyone into believing that he was dying from cancer.

Ashland: So this is you stooping to my level. For money. Or — or was it just to prove that you could do it?

Victoria: Go ahead. I dare you. I dare you to try to accuse me of anything. I will let the world know exactly what you are capable of and the levels to which you will stoop. I have proof to back it up, and I can destroy your life with one phone call.

Ashland: And if you feel satisfied now, a sense of triumph? Was it worth it?

Victoria: Yes.

Chloe: I want to focus on solving the work problem.

Chelsea: By which you mean me.

Chloe: This dynamic. Every time I express concern or offer my advice, you lash out. Insist on taking it personally.

Chelsea: Because it is personal. You make it personal. I have asked you several times just to back off, to tru me, to trust the process.

Chloe: And you’re so wrong about that.

Chelsea: I am speaking!

[ Scoffs ] A prime example. Designing for marchetti would be a dream opportunity for me, and you won’t even consider the idea.

Chloe: I was merely suggesting, as someone who knows you and knows how intensive and time-consuming the creative process can be, that you consider the possibility that you might be taking on too much.

Chelsea: This is what I’m talking about. You always want to manage me.

Chloe: Okay. Well, what you consider a managing, I consider being a responsible partner.

Chelsea: You insist you know what’s best for me, what I can handle, like I’m some irresponsible child.

Chloe: So I’m not supposed to voice my concern?

Chelsea: It crosses a line. It’s controlling and patronizing. And I can’t take it anymore. When I insist I know my own limits, you throw the past in my face like I don’t have the emotional fortitude to do my job. It is insulting. That is what’s not working here, chloe — your attitude. So if you want out, by all means, be my guest.

Billy: Hey. You okay?

Chelsea: Not by a long shot.

[Acoustic soul music throughout]

Chelsea: [ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ]

Billy: Hey.

Chelsea: Hey. You followed me.

Billy: You said you weren’t okay.

Chelsea: Oh, that’s — I’m — I’m fine. I just needed a minute.

Billy: Did something happen in society?

Chelsea: Yeah. Chloe. She’s really getting on my last nerve lately.

Billy: Is that why you hightailed it out of there?

Chelsea: I just needed some air. The truth is, with chloe, sometimes… forget it. You don’t want to hear all this?

Billy: I do. It’s okay.

Chelsea: We’ve just been disagreeing a lot. You know, this whole professional partnership has suddenly become very personal.

Billy: Yeah, that’s what happens when you work with someone that you care about. Lily and I disagree on things at times, as well.

Chelsea: I doubt you two fight the way chloe and I do.

Billy: We have our moments, but, yeah, we end up talking about it, and we — we find an understanding.

Chelsea: Well, it used to be that way with chloe, but lately, it’s like she’s constantly pushing my buttons.

Billy: As only the ones that know us best do.

Chelsea: Yeah, you’re right. You’re right. Maybe it’s me, you know? Maybe I’m projecting my stuff onto chloe. I mean, she’s the best friend I’ve ever had. I mean, she’s always been so amazing to me. Maybe — maybe — maybe she’s just having to deal with all my issues.

Billy: Well, I’ll give you points for insight, but promise me this — do not start a podcast, okay? Because it’s gonna be a real downer. Worst of all, it’s gonna be boring. And who wants to listen to that? Not me.

Chelsea: Is that what I said?

Billy: You said that exactly, I think.

Chelsea: Huh. Well, look at that. Actually got through to you.

Ashland: So this is who you are now. This is who you want to be. Your father would be so proud.

Victoria: You know, and it’s just so predictable that you would use my relationship with my father as a way to get me to second-guess myself. I repeat — the plan was mine. And the satisfaction of crushing you the way that you tried to crush me, that’s mine, too. Leaving you with nothing but what you had before you masqueraded your way into my life and tricked me into loving you. Oh, you know what? Actually, it’s even less because your company has been absorbed into newman enterprises. Your name and your presence are completely wiped from the building. And you are now what you always should have been — nothing. No one.

Ashland: I loved you with all my heart and soul.

Victoria: I could’ve predicted that you would say that, too, only now I know you have neither.

Victor: Well, thank you for the information. Right. If something changes, kindly give me a call. Bye.

Nikki: What time will the jet be landing in new york?

Victor: In a couple of hours.

Nick: Which means, by tonight, victoria will be home.

Adam: I was going to use the jet to take connor to pittsburgh to see the brewers play the pirates. So imagine my surprise to learn my request was bumped so victoria could use it, someone who is not an employee of this company and, last time I checked, didn’t want to be a part of this family. So does someone want to tell me what’s changed? Hey, it’s me…your skin.

Billy: I’m gonna let you in on a little secret. This — all of this right here — is rhinoceros skin. Nothing gets to me.

Chelsea: Ah, except for my comments on your podcast, which apparently you can quote verbatim.

Billy: That got to me.

Chelsea: You don’t have to listen to me. Don’t take it to heart.

Billy: Excuse me. I always listen to the truth.

Chelsea: Always?

Billy: Mostly.

Chelsea: That’s more like it.

Billy: All kidding aside, I — I took what you said to heart because I think, deep down, I knew you were right.

Chelsea: Mm. Just like, deep down, you were right about chloe knowing me well enough to get a rise out of me.

Billy: There we go. So what did we learn today?

Chelsea: [ Chuckles ] Uh, I guess, on some level, what chloe said makes sense, and i just didn’t want to admit it. Maybe I’m not good at gauging my limitations. Perhaps I need to face reality.

Billy: Hmm. Look at us, huh? Being all mature. Who would have ever expected that?

Chelsea: No one, ever.

[ Chuckles ]

Sally: Is this seat taken?

Chloe: Hi. Uh, what are you doing back here?

Sally: Well, I forgot my card.

Chloe: Fair warning — I’m in a — I’m in a lousy mood.

Sally: Yeah, I just saw chelsea storm out of here.

Chloe: Right. That wasn’t upsetting or anything.

Sally: Look, the last thing i want to do is make things worse, so you can just tell me to shut up if I’m overstepping. But when we were chatting before, it was very obvious that things were strained in that relationship, work- and friend-wise. You just seemed like you could use someone to talk to. And…maybe an alternative.

Nikki: Can’t you and connor fly commercial?

Adam: I checked. All the flights, they’re booked. So poor kid is gonna be crushed, and now there’s nothing that I can do about it.

Victor: Son, victoria requested the use of the jet to bring her from new york to genoa city, okay?

Adam: I am aware of that.

Victor: Good.

Adam: If you’re not gonna give me the courtesy of speaking with me first, you could least tell me the purpose of her visit. Or is it more than just a visit?

Ashland: So what do you expect me to do?

Victoria: I gather that this hasn’t penetrated for you. Because you have come to see me as someone that you can still manipulate, someone who thinks they can’t live their life without you. Well, guess what. I’m looking forward to it. And as to what you should do? I don’t care. Disappear. We’re through. I don’t want to see you or hear from you ever again.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

Recap written by Christine

At Crimson Lights, Nikki told Victor that she hoped whatever this plan he had about Victoria worked. Victor didn’t have news, but he had a good feeling about this. Nikki said there was very little basis for Victor’s optimism. He looked at his phone and said that the pilot had some interesting news about the company jet. Nick joined his parents on the patio. Victor said the Newman pilot told him that Victoria filed a flight plan from NY to Genoa City. Nick asked how many passengers. Victor said Victoria was by herself. Nikki was relieved, but Nick thought they should wait and see what this meant. Billy walked up and wondered why everyone was so serious.

Victor told Billy that this was a family discussion and said he should go work on his stupid podcast. Billy said his team would be thrilled Victor listened. Billy wanted to hear what was going on with Victoria. He wasn’t happy he had to tell the kids Victoria moved away, but he was thrilled she finally broke free of the man who’d been pulling her strings since she was in diapers. Nick said they didn’t know anything specific, and this was a family matter. Billy was sure he’d hear from Victoria before they did, since they shared kids. He left. Nikki was glad Billy was gone, and Victor called him a pain in the ass. Nick said they needed to focus on Victoria instead of Billy.

Nikki hoped Victoria realized she made a mistake. However, she wondered if Victoria was coming back to confront Victor for discouraging all the potential investors. Nick suggested that Ashland realized he’d always be facing this level of hostility, and he decided to break things off with Victoria instead. Nikki couldn’t bear the thought of that man hurting Victoria again. Victor decided to believe Victoria was in control and that she chose to come home. Nikki asked what Victor was going to do about Adam. Victor wasn’t making any decisions until he talked to Victoria. Nick thought that was wise.

Victoria was in the suite packing her bags when Ashland came in and asked what was going on. He asked if she was sneaking off without him, and she said of course not. She asked why he was back so soon. He forgot his tablet, and he needed it to show proof that they could afford the building. He noted that they’d put their money in a joint account together. He wondered why she wasn’t at the lawyer’s office, like she said she’d be. Ashland noticed a text from Victor on Victoria’s phone. They both reached for her phone, but he got there first. “Jet is on the way. Are you alright?” Victor had said.

Ashland told Victoria not to lie to him. She said she wasn’t going to lie, since she had no reason to. She was taking a jet to Genoa City. He asked if Victor got to her somehow. She said this decision was hers and hers alone. He guessed this separation had been more challenging than she thought. She admitted she regretted some of the things she’d said to her family, but she did it out of necessity. He asked if she was having second thoughts about leaving her family. “I could never leave my family and the fact that you would think that shows how little you know me,” she replied. He was confused. He asked if she was going back to ask her family’s forgiveness without even telling him. She said she had every intention of telling him everything. She’d planned to have some time to compose herself before talking to him, but she said he came home early and caught her off guard.

You and I will not be forming a new corporation together. And this move to NY was not about starting a new life with you. It was a calculated move to cut ties with you. To end your connection with me and my family for good,” Victoria announced. She triumphantly said Ashland did everything she expected him to do – he’d agreed to invest his own money, and he transferred what was left of the 500 million her father gave him into a joint account. She’d drained that account, and now he had exactly what he deserved – nothing. “So maybe now you have a clearer understanding about exactly who I am and what you’re dealing with,” Victoria stated.

Ashland looked at his tablet and saw the bank account was empty. Victoria asked if he thought he had her so enraptured that he could do anything he wanted, and she’d just forgive him. “Every single minute we were together was a lie. It was a massive betrayal. I loved you. I cared about you while you pretended to be overwhelmed by your illness. I suffered at the prospect of watching you die over this nonexistent disease,” she said. Every day she’d felt dread about his death. Victoria said that when she found out the truth, it didn’t just break her heart – it crushed her. She knew he saved her life by pulling her from a burning car, but she wasn’t sure that he’d done it selflessly. He said he saved he because he couldn’t bear the thought of losing her. She said that wasn’t enough to erase what he’d done to her and her family. She didn’t think he deserved to get paid off by her dad, and she knew he only gave half the money to Nick to impress her. She decided not to let him take anything from her family, so she came up with a plan to get the money back by lying to him and deceiving him the way he did to her.

Victoria knew that Ashland had to win at all costs. She wasn’t sure he was even capable of remorse, and certainly not love. She said his fortune was gone, and she knew it hit him right where he lived. He calmly told her that this wasn’t what she wanted. Victoria asked how he’d know. She said she was able to fool him so easily because he thought he had this hold on her that no one could break. “Our love was not a scam. It was real,” he contended. Victoria said it was real on her part, and she’d held onto those residual feelings longer than she should’ve, but everything she said after she got back from Switzerland was a lie. He said he should’ve known something was wrong when she insisted on taking things slowly. She said he wanted to believe her, which was the secret of any successful con. He congratulated her on getting him. She was dying to know how it felt to be so completely wrong about her – to be bested and stripped of his ill-gotten gains. He told her she’d just committed fraud. She laughed and said that was rich coming from him, someone who’d lived his adult life under a fraudulent name, who built a fortune on a stolen inheritance and defrauded everyone into thinking he was dying of cancer. He said she was stooping to his level for money, or did she did this to prove she could do it. She dared him to accuse him of anything. She said she had proof of what he was capable of, and she could destroy his lie with one phone call. He asked if she felt triumph. He asked if it was worth it, and she said yes.

Ashland told Victoria that her father would be proud of who she’d become. She said it was so predictable that he’d use her relationship with her father to try and get her to second guess herself. She reiterated that this plan was all hers. She took satisfaction in crushing him the way he’d tried to crush her. She said she’d left him with nothing but what he had before he masqueraded his way into her life and tricked her into loving him. “Oh you know what – actually, it’s even less, because your company has been absorbed into Newman Enterprises. Your name and your presence are completely wiped from the building. And you are now what you always should have been. Nothing and no one,” she snapped. “I loved you with all my heart and soul,” he stated. She’d predicted he’d say that, but she said he didn’t have a heart or soul. Ashland asked what Victoria expected him to do. She thought he saw her as someone he could manipulate, and as someone who couldn’t live without him. She said she was looking forward to living without him, and she didn’t care what he did. She didn’t want to see or hear from him ever again. She took her bags and left, leaving the door open. He slammed the door shut.

At her office, Sally told Adam that Chloe didn’t have to like him to be an amazing right hand for Sally. He conceded the point. He wanted Sally to have whatever she needed here, and if she wanted Chloe, he supported that. Sally thought Chloe might end her partnership with Chelsea, and Sally wanted to scoop Chloe up before anyone else did. Adam said he saw Chelsea earlier, and she was struggling, and true to form, she was using work as a crutch. Sally thought Chloe was at the end of her rope. Adam said things would be even more of an issue if Chelsea accepted the gig to do a line for Marchetti. Sally was shocked Marchetti was switching designers. Adam explained that Chloe didn’t want Chelsea to take the job at Marchetti, because she didn’t think Chloe could handle the workload she already had. Adam knew Chloe was right, and he’d told Chelsea as much. Adam said Chelsea wasn’t listening to reason. Sally said that she could tell Chloe had just about had it, and it was causing a strain on the partnership and the friendship. Sally suggested that parting ways was the best for both Chelsea and Chloe.

Adam called Sally Madame CEO and told her to hire Chloe. He warned her again that Chloe hated him and always would. Sally asked if Adam hated Chloe back. He didn’t have a problem with Chloe. He had total faith in Sally’s judgment. She said he was the only one to ever say that. He didn’t think that his old conflict with Chloe would be a stumbling block, but he just wanted Sally to keep that in mind during negotiations. Sally said she’d just focus on how great it was to work here and what a fabulous job she knew Chloe would do. Adam said now that the media division was in good hands, he’d focus on different areas. He thought dissolving the partnership would be good for Chelsea, so she could take the job at Marchetti. Sally loved how supportive Adam was of the people who mattered to him, including her. They smiled at each other. He got a text about the Newman jet being on en route to NY. He’d booked it to go to Pittsburgh with Connor for a ballgame tonight. He figured Victor must be the one who bumped him, since he was one of the few people with the authority to do so.

Adam wondered why Victor would be going to NY. He called the pilot to ask what was going on, and he was shocked to learn that Victoria was the one who requested the jet. Adam was deflated when he got off the phone. He said the prodigal daughter was coming home, and he was going to get fired. Sally told Adam not to jump to the worst case scenario. He told her she didn’t know these people like he did – Machiavellian behavior was the Newman stock and trade. Sally said that the way Adam described the big blowout with Victoria and the family, where she cut everyone off and left town to parts unknown, didn’t sound like the actions of a woman who planned to come back.

Sally suggested that Victoria regretted the way she’d talked to her family, and she was coming back to make peace with them, while continuing her life with Ashland. Adam said that could be, or maybe Ashland already pulled some new crap that opened Victoria’s eyes. Sally said that if Victoria forgave Ashland’s cancer lies, she probably wasn’t going to turn on him that quickly. Adam said there was a lot they didn’t know. Sally agreed with that. Sally said that even if Victoria was coming to try and get her job back, she’d have Adam to contend with. “Look, we have come way to far, babe. Don’t panic,” Sally said. She told him that he needed to keep a clear head right now. He thanked her and said they had to get more information and figure out what they were dealing with, so they could act accordingly.

Adam found his family still on the Crimson Lights patio. Victor had just announced that the jet would be landing in NY in a couple hours. Nick said that meant Victoria would be home tonight. Adam walked up and said he’d reserved the jet to take Connor to take Connor to see a Brewers/Pirates game. He was annoyed his request was bumped for Victoria, who wasn’t even an employee of the company, and last he checked, didn’t want to be part of the company. Nikki asked if Connor and Adam couldn’t fly commercial. There weren’t any available flights, and Adam said Connor was going to be crushed. Adam felt entitled to know why Victoria was coming to Genoa City and whether this was more than a visit.

At Society, Chelsea and Chloe clashed. Chelsea didn’t think she needed to send a bunch of apologetic texts for being five minutes late. Chloe said Chelsea was over an hour late, and she was being bitchy and picking fights and she wasn’t meeting deadlines. Chelsea said she’d been under a lot of stress too, in case Chloe hadn’t noticed. Chloe had noticed, and she’d tried every way she could to help Chelsea navigate the emotional ups and downs, and all she got in return were put downs and snark. Chloe said things couldn’t go on this way.

Chelsea asked if Chloe was planning to quit and leave her in the lurch. “You wouldn’t possibly consider dissolving our partnership because without me there is no business,” Chelsea snapped. Chloe groused about Chelsea going from zero to sixty. Chloe never said she was quitting. She just wanted to find a better way to work as partners and communicate without Chelsea getting so angry and defensive. Chelsea couldn’t believe she was hearing this from her supposed best friend. Chelsea said collaborations didn’t always go smoothly. Chelsea said not everyone could do what she did. “I am sick of you not appreciating what I bring to the table,” Chelsea said. Chloe was offended Chelsea would say that after all Chloe had done for her.

Chloe contended that she’d come through for Chelsea many times. Chloe knew Chelsea’s medical issues weren’t her fault, but they’d taken her down a dark path, and she’d made Chloe an unwitting co-conspirator. Chelsea thought it was clear that Chloe still held a grudge against her for that. Chloe didn’t hold a grudge, but she said Kevin worked for the police, and if her part in this had come out, they would’ve been in a lot of trouble. Chelsea said that was why she went along with Victor’s plan and confessed and went to the hospital – to protect Chloe. “So please don’t act like this is a one-sided friendship,” Chelsea said. Chloe said that she’d been there when Chelsea wasn’t able to work. Chloe had even worked for Adam to buy Chelsea time. She set up the whole fashion platform so Chelsea had a soft place to land. Near tears, Chloe said she did what it took to keep things going, even though Chelsea kept her dangling, claiming that she wasn’t even sure she wanted the job. Chloe had practically begged Chelsea to take the job, because she knew it would be good for Chelsea and she loved working with her. Chelsea said it didn’t seem like that lately. Chloe found it hurtful and incomprehensible that Chelsea would suggest she wasn’t being a good enough friend or that she didn’t appreciate Chelsea’s talent. Chloe was trying to make the partnership work, but she was also trying to preserve the friendship.

Chloe wanted to focus on solving the work problem. “By which you mean me,” Chelsea replied. Chloe said every time she offered advice or showed concern, Chelsea lashed out and took it personally. Chelsea felt Chloe made it personal because she wouldn’t back off when Chelsea asked her to. Chloe started to say Chelsea was wrong. Chelsea yelled that she was speaking. Chelsea said designing for Marchetti would be a dream, and Chloe wouldn’t even consider it. Chloe just wanted Chelsea to consider that she might be taking on too much. Chelsea didn’t want to be managed. Chloe felt she was just being a responsible partner. Chelsea thought Chloe was being controlling and patronizing. “When I insist I know my own limits, you throw the past in my face. Like I don’t have the emotional fortitude to do my job. It is insulting.” Chelsea exclaimed. Chelsea said Chloe’s attitude wasn’t working. “So if you want out, by all means, be my guest,” Chelsea said.

Chelsea stormed out of Society and past Billy. He asked if she was okay, and she said no. He turned around and followed her to the park. She told him that Chloe was getting on her nerves. He thought it was like that when you worked with people you cared about. He and Lily had their moments of disagreeing too, but they always talked and came to an understanding. She said it used to be that way with Chloe, but lately, Chloe was always pushing her buttons. He said the people who knew you best always did. She admitted he was right. She wondered if she was projecting onto Chloe. She said that Chloe had been the best friend she’d ever had. Billy told Chelsea not to start a podcast because it would be a downer and really boring. That made her laugh, and she asked if she’d really said that to him. He said she said that exactly. She said she actually got through to him. He said nothing got to him. Chelsea told Billy not to take it to heart.

Billy said he did take what Chelsea said to heart, because deep down, he knew she was right. She admitted, deep down, he was right about Chloe knowing her well enough to get a rise out of her. Chelsea guessed on some level, what Chloe said made sense. “Maybe I’m not good at gauging my limitations,” Chelsea said. Billy smiled and commented on him and Chelsea acting so maturely.

Sally went back to Society and sat with Chloe. Chloe admitted she was in a lousy mood. Sally wasn’t surprised. She saw Chelsea storm out earlier. Sally was there to offer Chloe an alternative.

Best Lines provided by Eva

Mariah: We’ve just been taking care of stuff that piled up when we were gone.

Nick: Ah. Too busy honeymooning.

Sharon: Hey, enjoy some time alone being honeymooners. Say no more.

Nick: How’s your day today?

Mariah: Uh, well, I am fantastic, but this one…

Tessa: This one is fine. I just need a mug of tea and honey.

Mariah: Yeah, because she guzzled all of ours down for her sore throat.

Sharon: Really? That’s been going on for a while now, hasn’t it?

Tessa: Yeah, but I’m — I’m sure it’s nothing.

Sharon: Well, whether it is or whether it isn’t, um, you should see someone about it.

Mariah: And there it is, the other reason why we are here — because I knew that I would find someone who agrees with me.

Noah: You know, I consider myself a pretty decent athlete.

Allie: You do?

Noah: Yeah.

Allie: Yeah?

Noah: I play sports, I work out all the time, but… you’re fast, like, really fast.

Allie: Well, I run almost every day. It’s kind of my thing. Well, one of my many things.

Noah: Along with chemical engineering, being super analytical and precise about everything? You know, some people might say you’re a type-a personality.

Allie: And you know what? Those people might be right. What? You got a problem with it?

Noah: No. No. In fact, I kind of envy you. I wish I had a routine.

Allie: You can always create new habits right now.

Noah: Nah. Nah. It’s just not me. I’ve always needed to be inspired to get stuff done.

Allie: Mm. Well, maybe — just maybe — you can find some inspiration from the way I just kicked your butt.
