Audra: Thank you so much. No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. That really was the head of Crawford Pictures. I just signed an exclusive deal with them for Newman media.

Lily: Really?

Audra: It’s all right. You can say it. It’s okay to be impressed.

Lily: Oh, no. [ Laughing ] No, no, I’m not impressed. I’m just surprised that nate would hand off such an important deal for you to seal. I mean, he was so desperate to be in charge.

Audra: I guess you haven’t heard the good news yet. I’m running newman media now.

********************

Lily: Well, I mean, I knew you were a shark, but I didn’t think that you would turn your back on Nate so quickly. I mean, especially after he took such a huge risk hiring you. So, how did you pull it off this time?

Audra: Well, this wasn’t some kind of backstabbing move. I scored the promotion completely on my own merit.

[ Lily scoffing ]

Lily: I find that really hard to believe.

Audra: Of course you think the worst of me.

Lily: Oh, Nate, hello. Perfect timing. I just heard about how your coo has sunk her fangs into your job. That’s what you get when you swim with sharks, so.

Nate: I’m not sure you have the whole story here.

Audra: Yeah, she didn’t even give me a chance to explain. She couldn’t wait to go on the attack

Sally: Hot sauce! You do love me.

Nick: Yes. I know how you get when you run out, so I brought you a few others to try.

Sally: Oh, do not get between a girl and her scoville units. “Made with devil’s tongue and habanero peppers.” Yeah, baby. You’re awesome. Thank you.

Nick: You’re welcome. So, how was your meeting with chloe?

Sally: It was actually really uplifting.

Nick: Yeah?

Sally: Yeah. We talked about desks. And work ergonomics. And I totally got out of my head space for a change, it was really great.

Nick: There you go. Good design, something you’re passionate about. What better way to get back in the swing of things?

Sally: Yeah. Little by little.

Nick: Whatever it takes.

Sally: Okay. Come on. It’s your turn now. You mentioned something about a meeting with victor. What’s that about?

Nick: My dad offered me a job.

Sally: Doing what?

Nick: Working with adam.

Kyle: Gerard, it’s kyle abbott. I’d like to have some flowers delivered. No. No, not to marchetti. These are for an audra charles. She’s staying at the athletic club. Uh, I’m thinking something a little wild, gorgeous, unique. That sounds good. And the note, um… from one overachiever to another. Thanks for showing me your moves. No name. She’ll know. Oh, oh, oh, gerard, um, I’d like some earrings as well. I’m thinking diamonds.

Audra: You seem very pleased about something.

Kyle: I am if you are.

Tucker: For immediate release.

Ashley: We’re toasting?

Tucker: Yes. To us, to new business venture and to that provocative bit of pr that just went out.

Ashley: To our joint success.

Tucker: And then some.

[ Diane sighing ]

Jack: Thank you.

Diane: Yeah. I feel so badly for kyle. I’m afraid that both he and summer are in for some tough times.

[ Phone chiming ]

Jack: Are you kidding me? I don’t believe this. Four delicious pieces of chocolate.

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Ashley: Jack’s phone should be pinging any second with our press release.

Tucker: You’re gleeful.

Ashley: I can’t help it. I wish I could see his face when he finds out that we’ve started our own company. It’s gonna make his head explode.

Tucker: Now that I would like to see.

Ashley: He deserves it. A taste of his own medicine. I just hope it’s as traumatic for him as having diane shoved down my throat has been for me.

Tucker: Well, you have been in a righteous fury for months, so it’s gonna take jack some catching up before he joins you in the anger stage.

Ashley: The anger stage?

Tucker: Yeah, you know, the kubler-ross. The five stages of grief?

Ashley: Oh.

Tucker: Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance.

Ashley: Well, jack is definitely in denial, thinking that diane is capable of change.

Tucker: Yeah. And when he finds out we’re teaming up, he’ll start on a whole new sequence of trauma.

Ashley: Why? Why? You think the press release is going to trigger him into the anger phase?

Tucker: Oh, absolutely. I can already hear it. Ashley, that you would– you would– that you would– uh– uh– betray our family for this– this flim-flam man. This charlatan. It’s an outrage. You’ve gone too far.

Jack: Tucker and ashley in business together? That’s outrageous.

Diane: What? The two powerhouses of jabot and mccall unlimited are forming an iconic new health and beauty company, with close ties to the creme de la creme of today’s social media superstar influencers…” oh, this can’t possibly be real.

Jack: I need to make a call.

Kyle: Iced tea, please. Do you want anything?

Audra: I’m good.

Kyle: Thanks. Mm. They look great on you.

Audra: My new earrings?

Kyle: Just like I knew they would.

Audra: Thank you for the compliment. And for my earrings. They’re exquisite, by the way. Although, they’re ridiculously extravagant.

Kyle: I figured, why the hell not?

Audra: And the flowers they were gorgeous as well.

Kyle: Glad you liked them.

Audra: Even though I received them in front of your wife. Not the most cautious move in the world, kyle. You’re not the least bit worried I might have told summer who sent me that bouquet?

Kyle: Should I be?

Audra: Or was that the plan all along? To make her jealous?

Kyle: Summer didn’t factor into this at all.

Audra: Mm-hmm. For some reason, I believe you.

Kyle: Well, you said you might call me. Or you might not. I figured if you didn’t call, then the flowers would be a fond farewell. But if you did call, the earrings would be a sparkly, “hello, again.”

Sally: Ugh! Your father is unbelievable! First, he hands adam a company, then he won’t even let him run it? And what? Does he actually think he’s helping, or– or is he just trying to pick a fight? I’m sorry. I just find that man absolutely infuriating.

Nick: You’re not the only one who feels like that.

Sally: I mean, it was one thing when he tried to bribe me into handing over my child, but I assumed maybe this is just a test, so I tried to let it roll off my back. But now here he is again, trying to suck you into his drama with adam and stir the pot. Because I guarantee you, adam is not going to want you to work with him because he has way too much pride and he’s way too selfish to share in any of the glory. But, for some reason, he makes people want to help him and fix him, but it can’t be done. So, why even try?

Sharon: Double shot?

Adam: Uh, make it three.

Sharon: Okay. Whipped cream?

Adam: It’s not really a whipped cream kind of day.

Sharon: No whipped cream then, coming right up. So… you got any plans for the weekend?

Adam: Uh, just work.

Sharon: Well, that kind of defeats the purpose, doesn’t it?

Adam: What about you?

Sharon: Yeah, tessa and mariah and I are going to aria to the park. It will be her first picnic.

Adam: Hm. Nice.

Sharon: Do you have any plans for summer? Maybe a trip with connor? Has he been camping? I bet you he would love that.

Adam: Connor’s at sports camp at walnut grove right now. He’s very busy. And I’m throwing myself into things, as well.

Sharon: What things?

Adam: Thank you. Keep the change.

Sharon: Adam… lactaid is 100% real milk,

Nick: I mean, I knew you’d have something to say about my dad’s offer, but I didn’t think you’d be this upset about it and what were you saying about fixing adam? Was that in the letter that he wrote to you? Did you finally read it?

Sally: You know, adam is irrelevant. He’s not in my life anymore and I would prefer if you did not deal with him either. I’m sorry, I know he’s your brother. I did not mean to make demands. That’s not at all how I wanted this to come out.

Nick: Your feelings are raw. It’s okay. I get it. I don’t like my dad’s suggestion either. But my dad’s really afraid that adam’s gonna start spiraling again. He can go to some dark places, as I’m sure you know.

Sally: Yeah. I’m not really the right person to discuss this with. Adam is trouble, and he’s only going to get worse. And I meant it when I said I do not want this guy a part of my life anymore.

Audra: Aren’t you the charmer?

Kyle: I assumed if I’d overstepped, you would have told me off right away, but you’re wearing the earrings, so…

Audra: Well, sparkly happens to be my favorite color. I appreciate pretty things. They make me happy. You know, and those flowers you sent, just breathtaking. You know, they really brighten up my suite. You should come up and see them.

Kyle: Yeah, I think I’d like to see them.

Audra: You know, I really admire your attitude, not giving a damn who might see us together. It’s refreshing.

Kyle: I have nothing to hide.

Audra: Well, that’s you. I prefer to keep my personal life personal. I don’t need the hotel staff and everyone else here knowing my business.

Kyle: Is that because you want to keep your options open? Or you don’t want anyone to think you’re slacking off when there’s work to be done?

Audra: It doesn’t matter why. It’s just the way it is.

Kyle: I promise not to act suspicious. I’ll follow you shortly.

Jack: No, you’ve been very helpful, jim, thanks. Unbelievable.

Diane: Who did you call?

Jack: A buddy of mine at the chronicle. He works at the business desk. Apparently, it’s legit.

Diane: I don’t understand this. The last we knew, ashley was trying to line up board members to stage a coup.

>>Jack: Yeah, in the meantime, they have been building a company. Out of thin air. How did it even get this far?

Diane: Well, I can’t help but feel somewhat responsible.

Jack: No.

Diane: This whole rift started when you and I got back together. And I have– I have tried to be civil with ashley and to ignore her constant attacks, but I’m– I’m going to admit, there are times when I’ve fought back.

Jack: Listen to me. You are not to blame for this. There have been times in ashley’s life where she has done things that are mystifying to me. This is one of them.

Diane: But jack, the timing–

Jack: Ashley and I worked very hard to get things back to a good place after our last falling out. It almost didn’t happen, but she folded her company back into jabot. No, this is not your doing. This is tucker mccall’s doing. And I am through putting up with it. And him.

Ashley: Okay, I wanna see angry jack again. You’re upset with your sister. Do it again. For her.

Tucker: This is an outrage! Have you no shame? How could you think of doing this to us? To me! Your brother.

Ashley: Okay. Okay, you are weirdly good at this. It’s– it’s a little disturbing.

Tucker: I don’t know. I think it needs a little work.

Ashley: No, it’s pretty good. So, next level? Next stage?

Tucker: Bargaining.

Ashley: Bargaining.

Tucker: I assume that’s right around the corner. He’ll– he’ll offer you an upgraded title or maybe a big bonus to try to get you to stay. Maybe he’ll fire billy, free up some space. Give you the old man’s room.

Ashley: My father’s office. Oh, he’d have to be very desperate to do something like that.

Tucker: Or worried.

Ashley: Yeah, as worried as I’ve been. About diane and what she could do to jabot if she gets enough power.

Tucker: Ah. Speak of the devils. I was stuck.

Kyle: Oof. Business casual takes on a whole new meaning.

Audra: Well, you know, I thought you could see the earrings better this way. You know? No distractions.

Ashley: Well, hello there. Are you here to congratulate us on our new announcement?

Jack: I want to speak to tucker.

Ashley: You know I make my own decisions, jackie. And if you’ve got a problem with my plans, you can talk to me and not my business partner.

Tucker: Don’t forget, your fiance.

Ashley: Oh, yes, my fiance. So here I am, speak to me. Right here, right now. This very moment.

Jack: You are so predictable. As soon as you can’t get your own way, you pick up your toys and leave us all hanging.

Ashley: Is that your really sweet way of telling me that you’re gonna miss me?

Jack: I’m not gonna have this conversation with you.

Ashley: Oh, really?

Tucker: All right. I’ll have this conversation with you, jack. I am curious to know what my future brother-in-law has to say about this.

Diane: Are you sure you want to do this, ashley? Go to war against your brother just because you don’t like me? Oh, come on, what will it take to end this?

Ashley: It sure didn’t take long to get to the bargaining stage.

Nick: Nobody asked what happened that night. But adam, honestly, I’m really glad that you were there to do whatever you could.

Adam: You mean take a kick in the teeth so my big brother can shine?

Nick: Here we go.

Adam: No, really. I would really like to know how that feels. To be the guy in the spotlight when the credits roll. You know, saved his family from a lunatic. And what does nick do on his victory lap? He swoops in to fix what adam couldn’T. I mean, you’re a hero. And I just get shoved back in the corner where I’m expected to stay until I’m needed.

Nick: That night took its toll on all of us.

Adam: Yeah, but you came out of that store smelling like a rose, even though I did everything right. It all fell apart. How does that happen, nick? No, really, I would like to know because I just– I really want to get this right for next time. And we both know there’s going to be a next time. Someone’s gonna need me to do their dirty work, the stuff that they just don’t have the stomach for, you know, the unspeakable stuff. The decisions that nobody ever wants to make.

Nick: It was an awful night for everybody.

Adam: Yeah. Well, it was worse for some.

Nick: And just so you know, I have told sally that she needs to find some way to forgive you, for something that’s not your fault. But this is up to sally, all right? Wherever this goes from here is completely up to her. Now, she has decided that because the baby is sadly no longer here, there is nothing left between the two of you. So, if you ever cared about her, then you will respect that and stay away from her.

Nick: You know, why don’t you tell me about your meeting with chloe? Let’s talk about business or something.

Sally: I just can’t, nick.

Nick: You can’t what?

Sally: I’m just really tired, okay? I– I– I can’t talk anymore. I hit a wall or something. I just really need to rest.

Nick: All right. So what do you want to do? Do you want to, uh, watch a movie or something? Maybe some mindless comedy? How about that nature show that you love so much, with the british dude with the soothing voice?

Sally: Yeah, maybe another time.

Nick: All right, um, we could–

Sally: Look, I just need some space, nick. I– I don’t know if it’s leftover hormones or the fact that I haven’t really slept in days, but I am on a hair trigger all of a sudden and I really do not want to say something to hurt you. Or to hurt us. So, please, can you just go?

Nick: Yeah, of course.

Sally: Nick. I can tell you’re trying. And I really appreciate that.

Nick: Feel better.

[Music playing] Subject 1: Cancer is a long journey.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

What can you do

with sensitive skin?

Kyle: I feel like I’m 20 again, back in new york.

Audra: You can be a bad boy anywhere.

Kyle: I pretty much was.

Audra: And now, you’re all tamed and domesticated.

Kyle: Oh, no, no, no. That’s not what you were saying five minutes ago.

Audra: True.

[ Audra sighing ] You know, feels like I had to give up this big part of myself to become successful. Always putting in the hours, paying your dues. No time to be playful or spontaneous.

Kyle: Then, before you know it, you have a family and responsibilities.

Audra: Not in here. Here, we can be carefree.

Kyle: Oh, but until the next meeting, the next spreadsheet.

Audra: That’s when you don’t love your job. When you do, it’s magic.

Kyle: You really like it at newman, don’t you?

Audra: I can’t remember the last time I was this excited to go in the office in the morning.

Kyle: I worked there, learned a lot. In terms of a job, it was valuable, but… as far as the newmans themselves, watch out. It’s hard to trust any of ’em.

Audra: Look, I understand there’s no love lost there, but I’m running newman media, with all the autonomy I could ever want and I need a right-hand man. Interested?

Nick: So, I guess you didn’t decide to sell off kirsten’s company and retire to a tropical island just yet?

Sharon: No. The idea is to use it for as much good and as many people as possible. So, no island for me.

Nick: All right. Got it.

Sharon: Your usual?

Nick: You know what? Let’s get crazy. Instead of regular lemonade, why don’t you put a little raspberry syrup in it?

Sharon: Ooh. Good choice.

Nick: Yeah, let’s go.

Sharon: So, how’s sally? Everything okay?

Nick: Yeah, not so much.

Sharon: Oh.

Nick: I managed to upset her.

Sharon: Wow, I’m sorry. What happened?

Nick: Instead of doing what victoria wants me to do, which is take some time off. Dad thinks it would be a perfect time for me to go and help adam.

Sharon: Help him at mccall?

Nick: Yeah, or a better way to describe it would be to insert myself someplace where I know I’m not wanted.

Sharon: Why?

Nick: Dad thinks that adam’s gonna channel his pain from sally and losing the baby into some war with the family. He thinks he’s going to go after newman media and victoria.

Sharon: Do you think that victor’s right?

Nick: Adam is not hiding his true intentions regarding newman media. He thinks he built up that company and he wants it back. And vic’s like, “bring it on.” So, dad thinks there needs to be some buffer or there’s going to be complete chaos.

Sharon: So, what did you say to victor?

Nick: I told him I’d think about it. Then, I made the mistake of bringing it up to sally and it really set her off.

Sharon: Mm. I’m sorry.

Nick: Yeah. Thank you. She just doesn’t think adam deserves any help and she’s blown away that I’m even considering it.

Sharon: Well, I haven’t spoken with sally directly, but I would imagine she’s struggling and I feel for her. She’s probably trying to find her equilibrium after a trauma and that’s hard.

Nick: So, what’s your take? You think I should work with adam?

Jack: If you actually have some genuine affection for ashley, you will call off this foolishness. Forget the wedding. Forget the new company. Don’t you see you are dragging her away from a family company she loves?

Tucker: You’ve really lost your perspective, jack. Jabot is just that. It’s just a company. Nothing more. It’s a profit-and-loss sheet. And it was never john abbott’s heart and soul. Family was, right? So if you want to honor your father, wish your sister well. Toast her new beginning and embrace her impending marriage because that’s what she wants.

Jack: Wow, you can still spin it with the best of ’em, can’t you? You gave up your company, so ashley should give up hers. You selfish son of a bitch. You want everybody else’s life to be as empty and meaningless as yours.

Diane: Okay, sure, I’m bargaining. Whatever you want to call it. I’ll do whatever I can to make jack’s life easier. So, what will it take?

Ashley: Well, a week ago, I would have said just leave, you know. Dump jack and get out of dodge. But now I actually want to pursue this.

Diane: Oh, please.

Ashley: It’s only a matter of time before you do something stupid that undermines my father’s company. Meanwhile, tucker and I will be nurturing our company. Watching it grow and flourish, while jabot fails and flounders because of you. And then we will be there to lend a helping hand.

Diane: You can’t be serious.

Ashley: I am serious, yeah. And then jack will cut you loose because he’ll realize you are the reason why jabot is failing. It will be too late, but you know, at least it’ll happen. And he won’t want to accept our help, but he will remember that our father’s company and our family is the most important thing, diane. And see, you’re never gonna be a true member of our family. You will never be an abbott. Not ever. For as long as you live. For copd, ask your doctor about breztri.

Sharon: The only ones who can decide if it makes sense for you and adam to work together is you and adam. I mean, would he even want that? Did victor ask?

Nick: Didn’t sound like it.

Sharon: Figures.

Nick: I know adam has been emphatic about turning things around on his own. You know, he really wants to turn mccall unlimited into a media powerhouse. Dad keeps offering him advice, but adam just keeps batting it away.

Sharon: Well, if that’s the case, what could you hope to accomplish by working side-by-side with him?

Nick: Keep the peace? Maybe prevent adam from making any bad decisions?

Sharon: If he would be open to that kind of influence. Do you think that adam might take this as a– a sign of lack of faith from victor? Imagine how much that would hurt him.

Nick: Look, I know adam already thinks dad pulled a bait-and-switch. You know, he gave him this conglomerate, but he’s second-guessing everything he’s doing. If you throw me into the mix, as paranoid as adam is, he’s probably gonna think that was what dad’s plan was all along. He might even think dad planted me there as a spy so I can report back on his activities.

Sharon: Sounds like you have quite a few reasons why it simply won’t work.

Nick: Yeah, I mean, it’s a lot of red flags.

Sharon: But you want to do it.

Audra: You have so much to offer newman media, okay? And I need a strong second-in-command, and you have the perfect skill set. You know, finance, operations, so I can concentrate on acquisitions and the creative side of things. Look, I guarantee you, it will be a lot more fun than working in fashion.

Kyle: Not as narrowly focused.

Audra: Exactly. And here’s the kicker. Adam newman is looking to use mccall as a weapon to come after us.

Kyle: You’re kidding me.

Audra: Look, I used to work with tucker, okay. So I know exactly what resources adam can bring to bear. If he can miraculously make a go of it, then newman media might be in peril. So, we need to swing first and swing fast. And I think you’re the perfect man for the job.

Kyle: Well, adam isn’t my favorite person. I like the idea of crushing his plan.

Audra: Then say yes.

[ Kyle sighing ] Why’re you hesitating?

Kyle: For one, my family.

Jack: If you had half as much influence over ashley as you want everyone to think, you would do something about this unhealthy fixation she has on diane.

Tucker: You want to know what I find fascinating, jack? So, dina leaves the family, right? Diane does too, although in a much more gruesome fashion. And just as dina came back–

Jack: I don’t want to hear my mother’s name out of your mouth again. This is about you manipulating my sister.

Tucker: Come on. You don’t actually believe that. She’s so tough and I think that you’re just scared to go toe-to-toe with her. That’s why you out here coming after me. And we both know, she’s just gonna do whatever the hell she wants anyway. Okay? Just admit it. ‘Cause the sooner you do, the sooner you’ll be on your journey to acceptance. Martial arts is my passion.

Nick: I don’t know what I’m thinking yet. But I do know I want your input instead of you dodging the question.

Sharon: Well, like I always say, there are pros and cons to every situation.

Nick: See, there we go. Come on.

Sharon: I suspect you already know what my advice would be.

Nick: Yeah, you think I should do it? Because adam’s grieving. And because he’s my brother. And when he’s like this, he’s a powder keg waiting to explode. So, even if I don’t do it for his sake, I should do it so I can prevent anyone else from becoming collateral damage.

Sharon: So what will you do?

[ Adam sighing ]

[ Sally sighing ]

[ Sally sighing ]

Adam: I don’t want the darkness to win. I want to believe that there can be healing. And I don’t know, maybe it’s ava’s spirit that’s making me write this letter. She knows that we’ve suffered her loss together. And just as creating her bound us here on earth, losing her binds us for eternity. But I want to be in your life, in the here and now, to support you through this. I’ll be waiting downstairs until noon if you want to talk. Please, don’t let this be goodbye. Adam.

[ Sally sighing ]

Audra: Listen, I’m happy in whatever role your sister deems best for me. And I’m ready to take you down in a corporate battle, if that’s what you’re determined you’ll have.

Adam: Good to know.

Audra: Hm. Well, it’s past noon. I think you’ve been stood up by whoever you’re waiting for.

Adam: You know, you have made a big mistake underestimating me and I hope you get ready for the biggest battle of your life.

Diane: Well, ashley’s in rare form today.

Jack: You shouldn’t have to put up with that.

Diane: Yeah, let’s just go somewhere else, okay?

Ashley: So diane tried her hand at bargaining. She really sucks at it.

Tucker: Yeah and the news hit jack pretty hard.

Ashley: Yeah?

Tucker: It would appear that he’s going to be reaching the depression stage in record time.

Ashley: Oh, boy. You know what? This celebration has gone even better than I was hoping for. Come here.

Audra: You know, maybe it’s time you broke away from the family, the family business. You know, grabbed some freedom. It’s so much easier and cleaner when you go after what you want when you want it. And to hell with expectations.

Kyle: That’s quite an offer. I’m intrigued. Newman media’s going places, that’s for sure. But uh, it’s not really a decision I can make on the spur of the moment.

Audra: Hm. It’d be a lot more palatable than working with your estranged wife.

Kyle: Do you know what I would like to talk about?

Audra: What?

Announcer: Next week on the young and the restless…

Tucker: That is a secret weapon. You can also consider it your wedding gift.

Adam: Why in a million years would you think it’s a good idea for the two of us to partner up?

Summer: What’s the news? How’s our mom?

Michael: Brace yourselves. I think she’s ready for her comeback.

Audra: Good morning, mr. Newman.

Victor: Audra, good morning.

Audra: Morning.

Victor: Please have a seat.

Audra: Thank you.

Victor: Thank you for coming.

Audra: How can I refuse?

Victor: Well, it was an invitation, not a command, you know.

Audra: Well, when victor newman invites you to breakfast, you show up. Especially when it’s your first day in a new role at newman media.

Victor: I hope I’m not keeping you from more important things.

Audra: How impossible. You’re not just the founder of the company. You’re an inspiration and it’s an honor to have this one on one with you.

Victor: Thank you.

Audra: Um, I’m probably embarrassing myself. I’m– I’m sure you’ve had plenty of yes men and women buttering you up over the years, right?

Victor: There is nothing wrong with flattery, as long as it is genuine, authentic.

Audra: Of course. Well, I– I’m sure you didn’t invite me here to test my ability to praise you. Uh, so this must be about my new job at newman media.

Victor: Mm-hmm. I just want you to know, audra, that newman enterprises is more than just a business to me. It’s family, it’s my lifeblood. Therefore, I don’t like certain lines to be crossed.

Audra: You think a line has been crossed?

Victor: I’ve become aware that you and a certain member of my family have become acquainted. And I asked you to come here to give you a serious warning.

[ Sally sighing ]

Chelsea: Well, thanks for breakfast. This is a nice change of pace from my usual at crimson lights.

Billy: But you’d like a change of surroundings, you know. It’s not as easy to do dinner with you wanting to spend as much time as possible with connor, but now that he’s at sports camp, I’ll get you to myself.

Chelsea: Yeah, and I get to have fancy waffles guilt-free.

Billy: Mm-hmm.

Daniel: Chelsea. Uh, sorry to interrupt.

Billy: Hey.

Daniel: Glad I ran into you. I actually left you a message.

Chelsea: Oh, ah, you know, my phone is off. Is everything okay?

Daniel: No, everything’s great. I just wanted to share the good news about omegasphere.

Chelsea: Well, I– I heard that the numbers from my game are climbing, but slowly.

Daniel: They are building every day. That’s the key. It means that the game is starting to take off. And even better, there’s been a ton of great reviews from the gaming press and bloggers.

Chelsea: Really? I haven’t seen those.

Daniel: We’ll have pr send over the links. The buzz has been good.

Billy: That’s good. That’s great. Congratulations to you both.

Summer: Chelsea. I am glad to see you. You’re actually on my to-do list for today.

Billy: So much for a quiet breakfast. Aren’t you in high demand?

Chelsea: Well, I– I can’t imagine why I’d be on your checklist.

Summer: Well, I wanted to follow up on my brilliant idea from a few months ago for you to come and work with me at marchetti. The timing couldn’t be better.

Daniel: Hold on. Are you trying to poach my star employee? Are you stealing talent from your own brother?

Sally: Ugh. What now?

[ Knock on door ] How many times have I asked you to leave me alone? Please, just go away.

Nick: Is that any way to talk to your boyfriend?

Sally: I am so sorry. I did not know it was you. You got here really fast.

Nick: You thought it was adam?

Sally: Well, he won’t give up.

Nick: What’s he want now?

Sally: I don’t know. But it seems the more I ask him to back off, the more persistent he gets. Even when I was with the people I love,

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Nick: Look, I really feel for what he’s going through, losing the baby and then having to make that choice. It’s– it’s impossible. And then, he’s battling my dad. I just– I was really hoping he would listen to me when I told him to give you some space.

Sally: Look, you don’t have to fix my problems, nick.

Nick: Right now, I do because you need to focus on healing. Not that it matters. I mean, adam just turned it into an argument and he didn’t hold back.

Sally: I’m sorry.

Nick: I’m not because he brought up something that you and I need to deal with.

Sally: Oh, great. So you’re taking relationship advice from adam now.

Nick: In this case, I am. Because you said the same thing the other day when you broke down. When you were at the hospital, I wasn’t there and you needed me.

Sally: Look, I was raw and upset. It was not meant to be an accusation.

Nick: But it was honest.

Sally: Look, I– I don’t blame you, okay? Uh, you had to be there for faith. You and sharon had to save your daughter and I– I get that more than ever now. And you had no idea that my daughter’s life was in danger too.

Nick: Well, that sounds logical and rational, but the fact is I wasn’t there when you needed me most.

Sally: Look, I– I really don’t want you to beat yourself up over it, okay? And I hate that adam made you feel bad about it, which is another reason why I want him out of my life. You know, he twists everything for his benefit. It’s just hurtful and manipulative and I hate it. So, um, you know, he needs to understand that if he cannot respect my wishes, then there is no more room for him in my life.

Audra: I hope I didn’t do anything to upset you, sir. Look, I’m not sure what you’ve heard, but I can assure you that whatever it is, I– I can explain.

Victor: You’re not the reason for my warning. My son adam is. Do you know him?

Audra: Uh, I met him recently at the athletic club lounge. Um, it was brief and it was before I– I was asked to fill in for nate.

Victor: Who approached whom?

Audra: I initiated the conversation.

Victor: Or so you thought.

Audra: Do you believe adam orchestrated our meeting?

Victor: I know my son can be quite charming.

Audra: Hm. Well, I promise you, I spilled no company secrets. Look, I am aware that adam is in charge of mccall. So I– I made sure I didn’t give away anything about newman media.

Victor: Good. Audra, I asked you here to forewarn you. My son, adam, is aiming to take over newman media. I don’t know when he will strike, but he will strike. Are you ready for the battle?

Summer: No, I don’t see it as poaching. I see it as sharing the creative wealth. I mean, your video game has launched, right? I figured you’d be looking for a new challenge.

Daniel: Right, but hiring chelsea away seems a little out of the blue like something you might have discussed with your brother first.

Chelsea: Well, no offense to either one of you, but I’m perfectly capable of fielding my own job offers.

Daniel: Of course, you are. I am just pointing out that you are valued at omegasphere.

Chelsea: Well, I appreciate that. And summer, I remember when you offered me this role previously and I turned you down.

Summer: I know, but it’s been a little while now and marchetti could really use your talents now more than ever.

Chelsea: Why is that?

Summer: There have been some changes and it’s presented a really unique opportunity. You and I would actually be running marchetti together.

Billy: Uh, isn’t that job taken by your husband?

Summer: Oh, you haven’t heard? Kyle’s leaving and I’m taking over as ceo, which is why I would love for you, chelsea, to take my position as creative director.

Billy: I’m sorry, kyle’s leaving?

Daniel: Can I speak with you for a minute, privately?

Summer: Chelsea, please consider my offer. I think it could be really great.

Chelsea: I will. Thank you.

Daniel: Excuse us.

Billy: Uh, I apologize. I’m gonna have to head back to the office and I’m gonna need a large coffee to go. So, why don’t I take you home?

Chelsea: Sounds great.

Daniel: Hey. What was that all about? What’s going on with you?

Summer: Kyle and I have separated. For people who are a little intense about hydration. With cirkul, your water is deliciously flavored at the turn of a dial, with zero sugar and zero calories. And cirkul has over 40 flavors, so your water can be as unique as you are. Try cirkul at drinkcirkul.Com

Billy: First diane, now kyle. I don’t think it’s a good thing to have your co-ce. Being left in the dark like that, jack. No, I– I– yes, I understand, it’s a unique situation and I feel for them both, but the courtesy of– of a heads up would be great. Thank you very much. That’s all I’m asking. Bye, talk to you soon.

Chelsea: So?

Billy: So, I now know why kyle is no longer at marchetti and why I didn’t find out about it until now. I guess it happened very quickly. Summer and kyle have separated and summer moved out.

Chelsea: Oh, no, I’m sorry to hear that. Makes sense why summer was so intense earlier though.

Billy: Yeah. And it also makes sense why daniel and summer both value your talent.

Chelsea: I don’t know. I mean, should I even consider this marchetti offer? Summer seems almost desperate.

Billy: I mean, if you’re asking me, I think it’s a hell of an opportunity.

Chelsea: But I thought you felt omegasphere was a good idea?

Billy: It is. I’m just seeing the perks, you know. Seeing you in and around the office would be fantastic. I wouldn’t have to squeeze in time between dinner and a movie.

Chelsea: So, you have purely selfish motives? You just want to work together again.

Billy: It wouldn’t be the same as the podcast. You know, we wouldn’t be working directly with each other, but if I get to see you in and around the water cooler, I’m gonna see that as a bonus. What do you say?

Daniel: Are you sure that you and kyle can’t work through this? Separation just seems so extreme.

Summer: Nothing is final. I– I got a room upstairs, but it’s not gonna be for long.

Daniel: Can I ask you why you seem so optimistic?

Summer: Kyle just needs some time. I mean, we’ve been through rough patches like this in the past and we always get back together. I mean, it’s what we do.

Daniel: Okay. I– I hope so. I just want you to be realistic too.

Summer: Wait, I’m sorry. Is this you being supportive right now?

Daniel: I am feeling like a protective older brother. You know, as someone who lived through a separation recently. When time apart, when it becomes permanent, that gut punch can hurt if it comes out of left field.

Summer: Look, I’m clinging to hope right now and you’re telling me to prepare for the worst.

Daniel: No, I just don’t want to see you hurt anymore. We did inherit a fierce ability to deny reality from our mother. Look where she is now.

Nick: Victoria forced me to take a leave of absence, allegedly to use the personal time to deal with the recent turmoil.

Sally: I’m part of that turmoil, aren’t I?

Nick: Yeah, but you’re worth it. No, but I am here to support you.

Sally: And sharon and faith. Look, maybe she’s right. You know, you always feel the need to be there for everyone else, but you have been through a lot too.

Nick: Honestly, if I thought I needed some time off, I would take it. But this is mandatory and I just don’t buy that it is for my own good.

Sally: You think there’s another motive?

Nick: I think vic and my replacement have other goals in mind.

Sally: Let me guess who replaced you… nate hastings.

Nick: You got it. And I have a feeling if it’s up to nate, I will not have a job to come back to.

Audra: Are you sure adam is trying to make a move? You know, maybe he’s bluffing, trying to goad victoria? Look, I know they don’t get along.

Victor: I know my son and he doesn’t make idle threats. He has declared war.

Audra: Then, he’ll get a war. Newman media will be safe under my watch. I have a question for you. You own mccall unlimited, don’t you? The same company that adam is using to go against newman media. Why are you playing both sides here?

[ Victor chuckling ]

Victor: Don’t you concern yourself with what angle I’m playing. You just pay attention to what adam is up to. I do not want him to take over newman media. (Wheezing)

Sally: So, how are you going to keep your sister and nate from pushing you out of your job?

Nick: I’m not gonna sweat it. I didn’t want this time off, but I’m gonna use it to take care of the people I care about. So don’t worry about me. No matter how things shake out at newman, I’m gonna be just fine.

Sally: God, I admire your calm. If I were you, I could not sit still. Of course, I am already climbing the walls because everything in this room reminds me of everything that happened.

Nick: Well, why don’t you try and focus on something else other than your grief? You know, something that’s rewarding for you. How are things going at chancellor winters?

Sally: No clue. Chloe has been calling me and I have been putting her off.

Nick: What’s she want?

Sally: I don’t know, I think just to check in as a friend. But she probably also needs help with work. I know she’s been doing everything on her own since the pregnancy complications.

Nick: I think you should call her. You know, some work or even just a friendly visit. It might be exactly what you need right now.

Chelsea: I’m not sure about such a big change. Not just going back to fashion, but this job summer is offering, it’s gonna be a lot of pressure and very public.

Billy: Yes, that’s all true. And if you’re not ready for it, that’s– that’s okay. But what do you– what do you think about the gaming job then?

Chelsea: It’s been rewarding being able to help people.

Billy: Okay. Well, that’s a good thing. But, you know, this– this job that summer is offering, it’s a hell of an opportunity, right? I mean, especially if you want to stay in the fashion world. Just think about it before you say no. That’s it.

Chloe: Chels.

Chelsea: Hi.

Chloe: Hi. I’ve missed you so much. I feel like we’ve been caught up in different orbits lately.

Billy: Perfect timing. I’m gonna bounce back to the office, okay? I’ll let you two catch up.

Chelsea: Bye.

Billy: Talk to you soon. Hi. Bye. Good to see you.

Chloe: Bye. Well, tell me all things like what’s going on with you two?

Chelsea: I will, but first I’m so glad you’re here. I actually really need your opinion on something. So, summer offered me a job at marchetti. Her job.

Chloe: Wow. She’s leaving?

Chelsea: Kyle is. And she’s taking over as ceo.

Chloe: Which leaves creative director open. That’s– that’s huge.

Chelsea: I know. But it’s probably too much for me, right? I mean, what do you think?

Chloe: Oh, uh, yeah, I– I don’t think I’m well equipped to give any advice.

Chelsea: Well, why not? We worked together. You know what the job would entail. Who better?

Chloe: I don’t know, maybe a better friend.

Chelsea: What are you talking about?

Chloe: How could I weigh in on such huge advice when I didn’t do more for you when you needed me most?

Audra: Thank you. I used to wait to run my dishwasher

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

What can you do

with sensitive skin?

Chelsea: It sounds like you’re blaming yourself for my depression and what I went through. And I’ve told you, you are not responsible for either one of those things.

Chloe: Yeah, but why did I let you push me away? Because if I had been there more often, maybe I would have seen the warning signs.

Chelsea: Chloe, it’s my job to notice when I’m feeling a certain way and I need to reach out to people. Something I didn’t do last time when things got so dark. I shut you out. You have been nothing but a support system for me, always. You fought for me, for us, for our partnership and I pushed you away. I didn’t recognize it at the time, so it’s my job to be more vigilant and not push away the people that love me and care about me, especially somebody like you who is the most loyal friend around.

Chloe: Well, I just want you to know, you can lean on me, always.

Chelsea: Well, I need to lean on you right now because I need to go through the pros and cons of this job offer, please.

Chloe: Okay. Well, just know that, um, you know, I’m here for all things, always.

[ Both chuckling ]

Nick: Hey, dad.

Victor: Hey, son. Thank you for coming. Please have a seat.

Nick: Why not? I’ve got nothing but time on my hands right now since I have no office to go to.

Victor: Well, I want you to know that I had nothing to do with your forced sabbatical. In fact, your mother and I were against it.

Nick: Thanks. I appreciate all the help lately.

Victor: That’s very nice to hear. Remember that next time you get pissed off at me. I do help my family, you know.

Nick: I’ll try. It seems like faith’s doing, uh, she’s doing well. Uh, she’s happy to be back at the dorm with all her friends. It is exactly the distraction we were hoping. Sharon and I check in with her every day.

Victor: You know that I’m playing chess with her at least once a week.

Nick: I know. Thank you for doing that. She needs all the support we can give her right now.

Victor: Yup.

Nick: Now, if I were you, I’d be focusing more on the chess match that victoria seems to be playing. I was informed that all of my staff was recently reassigned.

Victor: You don’t think I’m keeping an eye on things?

Nick: Is that what this meeting’s about? You want to try and figure out how to deal with victoria and nate?

Victor: No. This meeting, I’m gonna ask you to help adam.

Summer: Beautiful flowers. Someone must really be trying to impress you.

Audra: Oh, it’s to congratulate me on my new job. Uh, today is my first day as acting ceo of newman media.

Summer: Wow. And they got you jewelry too. I– I recognize the gift box. It’s the same jeweler that I go to. You must have already impressed my aunt.

Audra: Oh, I’m sure it’s just a fountain pen or a desk clock or something.

Summer: Well, good luck and I’ll see you around.

Audra: Are you staying here?

Summer: It’s temporary. Like your new position.

Audra: Welcome to the club, neighbor.

Adam: Well, you were right about being able to run into all the movers and shakers of genoa city here.

Audra: I’ve been warned about you.

Adam: And I would bet you have never listened to a warning in your life. Are you tired of clean clothes that just don’t smell clean?

[ Sally exhaling ]

Sally: Wow. That was fast.

Chloe: I got your text and I’m working on being a better friend.

Sally: It’s absolutely not something you need improvement on. I’m the one that hasn’t been pulling my weight at chancellor-winters.

Chloe: Taking care of yourself is not slacking off. It’s doctor’s orders, and mine. How are you doing?

Sally: I’m not gonna lie. It has not been easy.

Chloe: Yeah, I mean, losing a child is the hardest thing in the world.

Sally: I’m not really sure I’m ready to go back to work.

Chloe: No, of course not. Of course not. And I– I hope you don’t feel like you need to on my account because I have everything covered.

Sally: No. Uh, nick thinks that it might be a good distraction for me.

Chloe: And what do you think?

Sally: I’m having a hard time really thinking about anything right now.

Chloe: Yeah. Well, it looks like you’ve been cooped up here for a bit.

Sally: What gave it away? No, I– look, at least walking is getting easier. I have been doing laps around the block and slow, steady, boring. Yeah, maybe a distraction would be good for me.

Chloe: Okay. Well, um, I got approvals on all of the preliminary sketches and all of the paint colors have been chosen. Who knew there were so many whites to choose from? Uh, they loved all of your choices for the sofas and the chairs and we’re gonna start renovations soon in the common areas. We think that doing it in stages is best so they can continue to use the workspace.

Sally: Wow, you’ve been doing a lot.

Chloe: Too overwhelming?

Sally: No, no, really. And I– I appreciate you taking over everything. I– I’m just having trouble thinking about anything more than what I want for lunch.

Chloe: Yeah. Okay. So, um, let’s just start slow.

Sally: Okay.

Chloe: Okay? And get the creative juices flowing.

Nick: Dad, I am the last person adam wants to hear from. And frankly, I’m in no mood to reach out to him right now.

Victor: Son, you didn’t let me finish.

Nick: I don’t need to hear anymore. Look, I feel terrible about what adam and sally have gone through. It’s awful, but I’ve tried to reach out to him and he shut that down pretty quickly because he refuses to honor sally’s wishes. And that is to give her some space and it’s making her even more upset.

Victor: But you understand that they went through a traumatic situation. I mean, all that adam wants to do is, you know, share some of the grief with her. Can’t you ask her to be more open to that?

Nick: Sally is not the problem.

Victor: I know you think adam is the problem and I don’t disagree with you. However, you must know by now that I will never give up hope. I think that he is capable of changing.

Nick: Well, adam is always your blind spot.

Victor: Yeah. There’s truth to that, son. I hope you’ll never be in a situation like that. It tears me apart, you know. He’s my son as well. And right now, he needs someone to support him. The stillbirth has put him on a very dangerous trajectory and I am very concerned about it. So, what I’m asking you, if you can find it in your heart to give him one more chance?

Nick: Okay, um, let’s say I was willing. What exactly do you want from me?

[ Adam sighing ]

Audra: Care if I join you?

Adam: Hm? Don’t you have a thank you call to make? I mean, that was quite a extravagant floral arrangement gift I saw you with. Is that a fan or someone more intimate? Or maybe you had them sent to yourself?

Audra: And uh, why would I do that?

Adam: Make a statement. “I’m someone to be admired.”

Audra: I am, but I– I don’t need to send myself gifts to prove that.

Adam: No, I guess not. And I guess you’re not gonna tell me who the flowers were from.

Audra: Why ruin the mystery?

Adam: Mm.

Audra: What time is she coming?

Adam: Before noon. So, who warned you about me?

Audra: Take a guess?

Adam: Oh, that’s, um, that’s a long list of options there.

Audra: So everyone knows that you just have your sights set on newman media?

Adam: Well, I haven’t made that big of a secret of it, but I’m curious where your loyalties lie.

Audra: Well, I’m the ceo of newman media, so what do you think?

Adam: Well, you’re the interim ceo, ’til victoria gives my brother his job back, but…

Audra: Yes, the temporary nature of my job has been made very clear to me.

Adam: And I would bet that you hate that.

Audra: No, I’m actually looking forward to proving myself.

Adam: Oh, I bet you are. But word on the street is you’re no stranger to betraying your employer. So, what’s the chance of you doing that again?

When moderate to severe

ulcerative colitis

[ Knocking on door ]

Summer: Who is it?

Daniel: It’s your brother.

Summer: Hey, I thought you were going to work. What’s up? Did you hear from mom?

Daniel: No, not exactly. Um… I got something to tell you and I don’t think you’re gonna like it.

Summer: What did you do?

Daniel: I texted mom and I told her about your separation from kyle.

Summer: Why did you do that?

Daniel: Because it’s a big deal and she’d want to know.

Summer: Daniel, that wasn’t your information to share.

Daniel: Mom is responsible for your separation. It’s time she took responsibility.

Summer: We have no idea how she’s gonna react to that information.

Daniel: You’re right. Maybe it’ll bring her back. I mean, if she cares about us as much as she says she does, your relationship shouldn’t become another casualty of her bad choices.

Victor: What I’m asking is for you to join forces with adam at mccall.

Nick: Dad, come on. You already asked me this before and I said no. What makes you think I’d change my mind?

Victor: Son, you yourself said you have plenty of time now that you’re forced into this sabbatical. Why not put it to good use?

Nick: But you honestly think I would trade newman enterprises for mccall with adam?

Victor: Let me tell you something. Adam needs you more than victoria does. I’m begging you. I’m worried about my son. I don’t know if anyone can help him right now. I think if you were willing to support him, there’s a chance that he will straighten out.

Sally: What about something like this? A workspace that is both ergonomic and sleek. And it easily converts from seated to a standing desk. And if we position them like this, then they have this great view and they do not have to stare at each other. It’s a win-win.

Chloe: I love it.

Sally: The sketch?

Chloe: Yes, but mostly just seeing you smile again. Hey, no, stop, I… okay, I– I know where your mind just went. You’re feeling guilty for forgetting for a second. You are not betraying your daughter by being happy, okay? Your little girl would want her mama to keep smiling.

Sally: Thank you. Ava would have loved her aunt chloe.

Chloe: Oh, honey, that’s a beautiful name. I’m so sorry. My timing really sucks, I need to go. I have to meet kevin. I…

Sally: Of course, go. Really.

Chloe: Ah, you know, um, I think, you know, uh, we should just get together with lily and devon. Set up a meeting.

Sally: I would like to join.

Chloe: Are you sure?

Sally: Yes. Yeah. I’m– I’m ready to get out into the world. I– I don’t need to keep hiding in here, piling up dirty dishes.

Chloe: Okay. Um, you know, listen, I– I can just set a time and then, you know, if you want to cancel, it’s okay.

Sally: Thank you.

Chloe: I didn’t do anything.

Sally: You showed up. And you encouraged me to start small and you said things that other people are afraid to say.

Chloe: Come here.

[ Chloe sighing ] Okay. Bye, sweetie.

[ Sally sighing ]

Adam: I know that I could apologize every day for the rest of my life and it would never be enough to ease your pain because I know there’s nothing that will ease mine. We’re the only two people in the world who know what it is to lose ava. She will live on in our hearts as the fierce, brilliant, adventurous girl we knew her to be. I can only hope that her memory will help us find a way through this. I don’t want the darkness to win. I want to believe that there can be healing. Well, I don’t know, maybe it’s ava’s spirit that’s making me write this letter. She knows that we’ve suffered her loss together, but just as creating her bound us here on earth, losing her binds us for eternity. But I wanna be in your life, in the here and now to support you through this. I’ll be waiting downstairs until noon if you want to talk. Please don’t let this be goodbye. Adam.

Audra: Thank you. Listen, I’m happy in whatever role your sister deems best for me. And I’m ready to take you down in a corporate battle if that’s what you’re determined you’ll have.

Adam: Good to know.

Audra: Hm. Well, it’s past noon. I think you’ve been stood up by whoever you’re waiting for.

Adam: You know, you have made a big mistake underestimating me. And I hope you get ready for the biggest battle of your life.

Devon: Look at you. You’re really considering this move to the chancellor mansion, aren’t you?

Abby: Uh, you caught me. I have been giving it some serious thought. I mean, there’s a lot to consider, but honestly, I don’t think that it’s my choice to make. Leaving here would mean more to you than it would to me.

Kyle: Hey, dad. You wanted to see me?

Jack: Hey, come on in.

Kyle: I’ve got the latest figures on marchetti. I think you’ll be pleased with how things are going, although we may need to look at the–

Jack: I’m up to speed on the marchetti numbers. That’s not why I wanted to meet with you.

Kyle: Okay. What’s up?

Jack: I would like to discuss how we move forward from here.

Kyle: Move forward? Is there a problem I should know about?

Jack: There might be, given where things stand in your relationship with summer.

Kyle: Oh, dad, you don’t have to worry about that. Summer and i will be professional. We will find a way to manage our new normal, we will figure out how to work without conflict or acrimony if that’s what you’re concerned about.

Jack: I have my doubts. I’m not sure it’s possible or productive.

Kyle: So what are you saying?

Jack: One of you is gonna have to step away from your position at marchetti.

Kyle: The new marchetti is our creation. We reinvented that company together. Summer’s lost so much. I mean, asking her to resign after she’s been put through everything? It doesn’t seem fair. This’ll be hard on her.

Jack: I’m sorry, kyle. Summer is not the one who needs to resign.

Diane: Summer. Look, I am so sorry about what’s going on between you and kyle. I– I hate seeing the two of you torn up like this. But I just– I just hope you know that if you want or need anyone to talk to, that I’m– I’m here for you.

Summer: You know what, diane? Just stop. I– I don’t want to hear your support or your concern. You know, you were absolutely no help in getting kyle to forgive me, so thanks for nothing.

[ Diane scoffing ] Ughh!

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by… dominic’s baby talk,

Devon: All right, well, you know that I’m definitely not going to be making this decision on my own because we both have to have an equal say, and we have to be on the same page for a move like this.

Abby: Well, I mean, honestly I would be happy living anywhere as long as we’re together. But if I could translate dominic’s baby talk, I think he feels more at home at the chancellor estate.

Devon: Yeah? You don’t think he feels at home here?

Abby: Don’t get me wrong, he loves it here, but that’s where he spent most of his early life.

Devon: I know. I know. That’s– he probably does feel the difference.

Abby: I mean, as soon as we pull into the chancellor house, I mean, he gets the biggest smile on his face.

Devon: Yeah, I bet he does. It’s a nice place. It’s huge. He has a park for a backyard.

Abby: Yes. I mean, and I think he connects this place with spending time with you, which he obviously loves. I mean, as soon as we get off the elevator, he starts saying, “daddy!”

Devon: Well, he would definitely have more space in the mansion and a lot more rooms to explore. We could take one and turn it into a whole toy store for him. He’d probably love that.

Abby: Yeah, what kid wouldn’t?

Devon: Yeah.

Abby: But how are you feeling about this move? What’s your heart telling you?

Devon: Uh, honestly, I just keep thinking about what chance said about katherine because, well, that mansion was her pride and joy, and she’d hate for it to be sitting empty.

Abby: Yeah, no, I heard she would want the whole place to be filled with life and laughter.

Devon: Exactly. And it seems like chance is gonna do whatever he’s gonna do, regardless of if we move or not, so I don’t know. It just feels like another part of katherine’s legacy that I could keep alive. And I know that she would love the fact that her great-grandson is growing up in a house that meant so much to her.

Abby: Then, I think we have our answer.

Devon: You think so?

Abby: Mm-hmm.

Devon: I think we do, too.

She couldn’t wait to go on the attack.

Nate: Lily, uh, I’m temporarily filling in for nick as coo of the parent company. And audra here is keeping things running at newman media for me.

Lily: Oh, that makes sense. You’re a place filler. I got it. Yeah.

Audra: No. I’m much more than a place filler, as evidence by the deal I just negotiated.

Nate: So? Meeting went well?

Audra: I’d say it’s pretty much in the bag.

Nate: Congratulations, that is quite the score. You’ll have to fill me in on the details.

Audra: Oh, definitely.

Lily: Audra, would you mind giving us a minute to chat?

Audra: Of course. I’ve got quite a few phone calls to make about my huge news. Oh, and lily, I don’t think I ever got to thank you.

Lily: For what?

Audra: For firing me from chancellor-winters. If you and devon had never let me go, I would have never gotten this incredible opportunity. Now, I’m flying high at newman media. And I’m not usually one to brag, but I feel like I’m finally at the top of my game.

[ Lily chuckling ]

Lily: Oh, my gosh. Okay, wow. Anyway, um, I haven’t seen you since the tribute to my dad. How are you doing?

Nate: Thank you for asking. I have to say, things– things are great.

Lily: Good. I’m glad to hear that. I was worried about you after I heard about your breakup with elena. It didn’t have to do with audra, did it?

Nate: No, no, not at all. Um, actually, victoria and I have started seeing each other.

Lily: I’m sorry. [ Laughing ] Wow. Really? Wow. [ Laughing ] You are swimming with all the sharks, aren’t you?

[ Lily chuckling ] I mean, I was gonna tell you to be careful of audra and victoria, but you really are managing the waters just fine, aren’t you?

Diane: Look, I know you’re upset right now. Ho– how can you not be after everything that has happened. Stop! Summer, I just want you to know that I’m sorry.

Summer: Diane, you’re the reason that my mom is gone and my marriage is crumbling. Honestly, I– I’m just grateful that I don’t have to walk around on eggshells with you anymore.

Diane: What? Why can’t you see that I’m trying to help you to understand why you’re acting like this?

Summer: You’re trying to help? When I asked you for help with my marriage, it was a test. And you failed it. Miserably. So, I– I’m gonna handle things on my own from here on out. And you know what? My mom was right. You do destroy everything that you touch.

Kyle: You’re suggesting that I should be the one to resign?

Jack: Yes, I think summer should be the one to stay on marchetti.

Kyle: Okay, based on what? Did summer put you up to this?

Jack: No. Absolutely not. Summer would never do that. Look, I discussed this with her, this is a business discussion. Yes, it is personal as well.

Kyle: So, personally you would rather I be the one to go?

Jack: Kyle, I have to look at the whole picture. Summer’s life is in chaos. She thinks she’s losing everything. Marchetti should be the one thing that she can count on.

Kyle: Oh, dad, she should have been able to count on me, but instead she chose to lie and keep secrets.

Jack: Kyle, you are my son, and I love you, and the last thing I want is for you to leave your grandfather’s company.

Kyle: Yeah, but you want me to resign from marchetti.

Jack: From marchetti, yes. Not from jabot. There are plenty of jobs in other divisions here you could walk into seamlessly. We’ll figure it out.

Kyle: Billy occupies my old ceo seat, dad, so what’s left?

Jack: There are probably plenty of options, kyle. I said we’ll figure it out. I’m sorry, I really am, but if you are determined to separate from summer, it makes sense, business sense, to separate at work as well.

Kyle: I see. But I have to wonder if there isn’t more to this.

Jack: What more could there be?

Kyle: Is this your subtle way of trying to get summer and me to stay together?

Audra: I see your cousin left. Did she, uh, lecture you again on corporate morality?

[ Nate chuckling ]

Nate: Why would you say that?

Audra: Seems like that’s what she does. She’s judgmental, that one. She took her own brother to court over the family company.

Nate: Ah, don’t be so hard on her. Lily’s a good person with a good heart. We had a chance to reconnect a little at neil’s jazz lounge dedication and I am– I am relieved about that. The last thing I want is for our relationship to backslide now that things are, thankfully, on the right path.

Audra: Listen, I have nothing against you rebonding with your family. Look, in fact, I’m all for it. Just please don’t let lily’s selective conscience influence important business decisions.

Nate: I’m not worried about lily or any undue influence you think she might have on me.

Audra: Your cousin may want to be on your side, but you still betrayed her company. And now, here you are succeeding without it. That’s probably something she won’t forget anytime soon.

Lily: I am so glad you called me over because I have some news for you.

Devon: Really?

Lily: Yes.

Devon: What is it?

Lily: Nate is involved romantically with victoria. [ Laughing ]

Devon: Yeah.

Lily: Did you know?

Devon: Yeah. I did know ’cause elena told me about it not too long ago and I didn’t wanna go and gossip about nate cheating on her.

Lily: Oh, I didn’t know he cheated. He left that part of the story out.

Devon: I bet he did.

Lily: Okay, well did you know this? That nate and audra have temporary positions at newman? Nate’s filling in for nick as coo, and audra’s filling in for nate as ceo at newman media. So, no such thing as karma, I guess.

Devon: Wow, yeah, no, I guess not.

Lily: You know, I really felt like after the tribute to dad that maybe nate and i could work things out. I just keep wanting to believe he’s this good person, but he just keeps proving me wrong over and over.

Devon: He hasn’t been a good person for a while now. But despite that, how would you feel about being his neighbor?

Chance: Hey.

Abby: Hi.

Chance: Said you wanted to talk? Did you guys make a decision about the move?

Abby: I just– I want to make sure that you’re definitely okay with this move.

Chance: Well, I wouldn’t have made the offer otherwise.

Abby: Because it’s kind of a big life change and I don’t want you to have any regrets.

Chance: I know what I’m doing. I know what I want, okay?

Abby: Okay. Because, you know, it’s just the two of us. I mean, you can tell me how you’re feeling. You can be open.

Chance: Abby, trust me, I’m not holding anything back. Why would I do that?

Abby: Just because we’re not together anymore doesn’t mean I don’t care about you. So, if you wanna tell me how you’re feeling, you can. I’m here to listen.

Jack: Kyle, there is no manipulation here. There is no ulterior motive. This is not part of a plan to get you to stay with summer. Regardless how I feel about that, I would never force you to do something against your will.

Kyle: Then why would you choose her over your own son?

Jack: That is not what I am doing. Kyle, I love you both. Let me be very clear about this. No one is getting fired, I am in no way suggesting that you leave jabot. There are great jobs here that you could thrive in.

Kyle: Mm-hmm. It feels like I’d be going backward.

Jack: It is not feasible for you to continue working as a team. Your jobs require that you work in sync, you would be doing damage to a company you’ve worked very hard to build. And think about it, kyle, working day in, day out next to summer? That would hurt you both, you can see that, right?

Kyle: No, I can’T. Summer and i are perfectly capable of handling our jobs and keeping our personal life out of it.

Jack: You say that now, but try to imagine how awkward a workplace you would be creating for yourself and everyone else. Kyle, if you are determined to separate from summer, separate. No one can stop you from that. But if you continue to try so hard to work with summer closely, maybe that should tell you something. Kyle, we need to resolve this. I’m gonna need your answer soon.

Kyle: I will get back to you.

[ Jack sighing ]

Chance: Thank you. Look, abby, I appreciate your concern. And, yes, this move is something that I need to do for me, but it’s– it’s mostly for dominic.

Abby: I know how badly I hurt you and I will always regret that.

Chance: We grew apart, all right? And I’m coming to terms with that now.

Abby: I know, but if I had–

Chance: Hey. Why don’t we put all that behind us and at least try to be friends again for dominic’s sake?

Abby: I would like that.

Chance: Good. I’m in a good place right now. Really. Looking forward, I’m trying to make better decisions for my future and I’d like to start with the house.

Abby: So, you’re really okay with moving out of the mansion?

Chance: Yeah, I don’t need that place. It’s too quiet, it feels like a mausoleum. It needs to be filled with laughter. It needs dominic running around all the time, not just when he visits.

Abby: Okay, well, it sounds like you’ve made up your mind then.

Chance: Already found a place. I’ll be out by the end of the week.

Abby: Wow. [ Laughing ] Okay then.

Chance: Tell me if I’m wrong, but I feel like this is the right move here. I mean, dominic’s still gonna have all three of his parents. I’m gonna see him just as much as I do now. You know, occasionally he can stay at my house, but he’s not gonna be bouncing back and forth all the time now.

Abby: Well, I think it’s official.

Devon: So, I invited you over here for an important reason and that is to offer you this penthouse. I thought you might be interested in moving in.

Lily: Uh, what do you– what? Where would you and abby and dominic live?

Devon: So, chance came by and offered us the opportunity to move into the chancellor mansion.

Lily: Wow.

Devon: And I know it seems a little odd given how everything went down between us, but we both think that it’s the right move for everyone.

Lily: And how so?

Devon: Well, ’cause chance is single, so he doesn’t need all that space to himself. And as for dominic, that’s where he feels the most comfortable living.

Lily: That’s great. You guys are being very mature about this.

Devon: Yeah. It is easy once we agree to put dominic first. But would you be interested in moving in here?

Lily: I mean… [ Laughing ] …This has definitely caught me off guard, but, I mean, I– I love this place, I’ve always thought it’s beautiful and it’s, you know, the last place…

Devon: Neil was alive.

Lily: Yeah, which, you know, I like the idea of his presence being here, that’s very comforting. So I do love that.

Devon: It was almost the thing that kept me from even considering moving out, but then I thought of you. I thought you’d be perfect to be in here. And I imagine you could get a good deal on the place since I know the owner of the building. So, come on. How about we, uh, we keep this place in the family?

[ Summer sighing ]

Kyle: You know how much I love you. I would follow you anywhere in the world. Even right across the room because you are the center of my universe. You and harrison. How long have I known you?

Summer: Mm, close to forever.

Kyle: And in all that time, you’ve been a million things to me. My rock, my advisor, best friend, partner.

Summer: Tormentor.

[ Both laughing ]

Kyle: My love. We’ve been through challenges together and everyone keeps talking about how young we are, but all I can think about is summer and I, we have lived a lifetime together. And you’ve watched me go down paths that have led me away from you, only to find that I’ve always followed the path that brought me right back home.

Summer: It has been the wildest ride of my life, kyle.

Kyle: But you didn’t sign up for this, raising a child that you didn’t give birth to.

Summer: Harrison is my son, biological or not.

Kyle: I know. And that’s what I love most about you. The way you open up your heart just to let people in. And I thank whatever higher power that put me in your sights. I know we’ve had our obstacles.

Summer: You. It was definitely mostly you.

Kyle: But you never gave up. We’re the best part of each other’s stories and every time I turn the page, you’re doing something else that blows my mind or makes me know we made the right choice when we chose each other. I would choose you every day.

Summer: Even over ice cream?

Kyle: Yes, even over my beloved mocha fudge. Now, just please, just let me finish, okay?

[ Summer laughing ] You are what makes me want to find out what comes next. I know it hasn’t been easy and there will be more difficulties, there always will be. I am so lucky I get to face them with you.

Summer: Well, stick around ’cause this next chapter, it is out of this world.

Kyle: Good. I like our story. I love our family.

Summer: We are the best, right? [ Giggling ]

Kyle: Like I said, I would follow you anywhere in the world, so will you do the same for me?

Summer: Of course, but where are we going?

Kyle: Back down the aisle. Summer newman abbott… will you make me the happiest man in genoa city? Will you marry me again?

Summer: You’re home. Did diane call you?

Kyle: Is there a reason she should have?

Summer: It doesn’t matter anyway.

Kyle: What happened now? Did you and my mom get into–

Summer: It’s not everything, but it’s enough to move out with. Just what you want, right?

Kyle: I guess. I just– I didn’t expect you’d be ready to go so quickly.

Summer: What would be the point in waiting?

Kyle: Um… I talked to my dad about marchetti. He thinks I should leave the company and let you run it. I fought at first, but now I realize how right he is. We shouldn’t inflict our problems on other people. Marchetti’s yours. You shouldn’t have to lose any more.

Summer: I guess there’s just one thing left to do. Hardest part of all. [ Sighs ] Harrison, could you come down here for a minute? Ughh! Summer: Hi, sweetie, were you playing upstairs? Here, come sit with me.

Kyle: Sorry to interrupt all the fun, buddy, but mommy and daddy need to talk to you about something for a minute.

Harrison: Okay.

Summer: You know how much we love you, don’t you?

Kyle: And I hope you know that will never change. However, there is going to be a little shift around here. We want to be sure that you understand.

Summer: I’m gonna be moving out for a little while. But other than that, nothing much is gonna be different.

Kyle: Nope. Not at all. We’ll still be doing all the fun things we always do.

Summer: Yeah, and I’m still gonna see you every single day. I’m gonna read to you and play with you and– you can come and visit me anytime you like.

Kyle: Trust us. You will never miss out on a single drop of our love. Just like always. Okay, buddy?

Summer: In fact, you know what? We’re gonna have even more fun than ever.

Kyle: And I hope you know you can always count on us to be there for you. 100%.

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: I love you, harrison. Come here.

Audra: Check us out. We’re on a real roll here. On track to getting everything we’ve been working towards. To us.

Nate: I can’t believe how effortlessly everything kind of just has fallen into place.

Audra: You know, I mean, what nick went through was terrible. I don’t wish that on anyone.

Nate: He didn’t think he needed the time off. He hasn’t gone back to the office since victoria insisted.

Audra: Hmm.

Nate: She really didn’t leave him a choice.

Audra: Do you know when he’s planning to return?

Nate: No. I haven’t heard a word about it. Who knows? Maybe he’ll decide to give up on the corporate life again. You know, buy another bar or refocus on his charity work.

Audra: That will leave the coo position wide open for you to step right in. Permanently.

Nate: I wouldn’t turn it down, that’s for sure.

Audra: Things are still going well with you and victoria personally, I hope?

Nate: Could be better. Speaking of which, in light of our new positions, we should probably head back to the office.

Audra: Oh, you go ahead. I– I have something to take care of. A little side project I’m working on.

Nate: Anything victoria and i should know about?

Audra: Not yet, but stand by. It may prove very rewarding.

Abby: Lily, hey!

Lily: Hey!

Abby: I’m so happy that you’re here. I have some good news to share.

Devon: Do you? What is it?

Abby: Well, it’s on the chance front. We can move into the chancellor mansion by the end of the week.

Lily: Wow, congratulations.

Devon: Sheesh. That’s very fast, a week.

Abby: Yeah, I guess chance found another place to live.

Devon: He wasn’t messing around, was he?

Abby: No, um, how’s everything going here?

Devon: I don’t know yet ’cause lily hasn’t given me an answer yet.

Abby: Well, I’m sure you don’t have to sell lily on how amazing this place is. Not to mention it is super close to the chancellor-winters headquarters.

Devon: That’s right.

Lily: That’s true. Oh, I mean…

Devon: Come on.

[ All laughing ]

Lily: You know what? I’m in. It’s fine. I’m in.

Abby: Yay!

Lily: I’m in. Yeah, why not?

Devon: Congratulations!

Lily: Why not? [ Laughing ]

Devon: All we gotta do is pack now.

Lily: Yeah.

Devon: Aw.

Lily: Wow.

Kyle: Well, that went better than expected.

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: Breaks my heart. He’s been through so many sudden, drastic changes in his life. He’s adjusted so well in spite of it all.

Kyle: Well, that’s because of you.

Summer: You too. We made a pretty great team.

Kyle: We always will when it comes to our son.

Summer: The hardest part is gonna come later when he calls out for me and I’m not here.

Kyle: That’s when we will just pick up the phone, then. Okay? I promise to let harrison call you as often and anytime as he wants. And you should feel free to come by and call whenever you like.

Summer: It’s not gonna be the same. Not for me or harrison. Okay. I guess I’m gonna get going.

Kyle: Here, let me help you with your bags.

Summer: No. It’s okay. I got it.

Your heart

is the beat of life.

Diane: It wasn’t pretty, jack. I cannot believe what summer said to me.

Jack: I am so sorry you had to deal with that.

Diane: Well, I’m trying not to blame her for being so upset. You know, she just needed to lash out at someone and there I was, the easiest target.

Jack: Well, that’s very generous of you, but she has no right treating you that way. You are not to blame for their problems. I had my own run-in with kyle earlier.

Diane: Well, I can imagine he’s as upset about their breakup as she is.

Jack: Well, it wasn’t about that directly. It was about marchetti.

[ Door creaks open ]

Diane: Kyle. Are you okay? What’s– what’s wrong?

Kyle: We told harrison about the separation. It went as well as could be expected.

Jack: That couldn’t have been easy.

Kyle: Summer also moved out of the house and… I told her I will be resigning from my position at marchetti.

Jack: I’m sure that was difficult to decide. More difficult to tell summer, but, kyle, I promise you, this new job is gonna be more than rewarding.

Kyle: Thanks, dad. I don’t think so.

Jack: Wait, what does that mean?

Kyle: I appreciate you offering a spot for me to stay at jabot, but I’m afraid I have to respectfully decline. I hope you’ll understand, but I need some space to figure out what’s next.

Jack: What’s next without jabot?

Abby: I have to schedule the movers, I have to get extra keys for the chancellor house, I have to notify the post office. I have to have dominic’s penthouse furniture put in storage or I could give it to charity.

[ Abby sighing ] Are you okay? Is all of this moving too fast?

Devon: What?

Abby: It’s just, we can slow it down. I mean, there’s no rush at all.

Devon: Nah, no need to slow anything down. I appreciate you being concerned. I’m fine.

Abby: Are you sure? ‘Cause I saw you drifting over here. I mean, it’s okay if you’re having second thoughts about moving.

Devon: Nah, it’s not any second thoughts, it’s– it’s just– it’s gonna be a little tougher to leave this place than I thought, you know? This is where I– I did all my real growing up. This is where I figured out who I am and what I wanted out of life. After all that time I spent at the gcac, this was the first place where I really felt like I could settle down.

Abby: Hmm. It’s not too late to change our minds.

Devon: No. We’re not gonna change our minds. It’s time to move on. And it’s time for us to start our life together.

Abby: Yeah.

Devon: Right?

Abby: Mm-hmm. Yeah.

Devon: It’s gonna be great.

[ Abby chuckling ]

Chance: Hey.

Summer: Hey.

Chance: Tell me this isn’t what it looks like.

Summer: Actually, it’s exactly what it looks like. Kyle asked me to move out.

Kyle: Got your text, but I’m surprised you wanted to meet here.

Audra: Well, I had a banner day as newman media’s newly minted interim ceo and I was busy getting settled in and meeting with department heads, but I had time for a short break and you seemed so eager, so, um, I thought I could spare you a few brief minutes of my very, very valuable time. Uh, how was your day?

Kyle: Um… summer moved out. She and I are separated. Want your clothes to smell freshly

Diane: It’s tough to see kyle hurting like this.

Jack: He’s at a crossroads in his life emotionally and professionally. Would he really walk away from jabot? And his family?

Diane: It’s just all so fresh right now. Kyle just needs to take a breath, take a step back and maybe even get away for a little while. And then he can return to his family’s business and find his place here. He knows that this is where he needs to be.

Jack: I don’t know. I’d sure like to believe that. I do know one thing. That house is gonna be a whole lot sadder without summer there.

Chance: Summer, I’m truly sorry. Unfortunately I’ve been through this, so I know it’s tough.

Summer: Yeah, it is.

Chance: Well, if you need someone to talk to, I’m here. Don’t be afraid to reach out.

Summer: Thanks. I think I just need to get settled into my new home and try to let all of this blow over. Then I can focus on getting my marriage back on track.

Audra: Sorry to hear that. I can imagine ending a marriage isn’t easy.

[ Kyle sighing ] I– I hope it didn’t have to do with, you know, with what happened with us last night.

Kyle: No. Trust me. My problems with summer started way before you and I slept together.

Audra: Well, I– I don’t mean to pry, but that’s a relief. I would hate to think that I, you know, made things worse for you.

Kyle: No, you don’t need to worry about that. Things were already bad, I just… I have a lot to figure out right now.

Audra: Don’t tell me there’s more?

Kyle: As if the separation wasn’t enough, I’m out of a job. Apparently, summer got to keep custody of the workplace.

Audra: I’m surprised. Uh, I would think that if anyone had to go, it’d be her, right? Jabot is your family’s company.

Kyle: Right.

Audra: Hmm. Well, I– I’m curious, what’re you gonna do next?

[ Kyle chuckling]

Kyle: I haven’t gotten that far. That’s much of what I have to figure out.

Audra: Interesting.

Kyle: Hmm.

Nate: The risk is undeniable, the downside is very real, but why not be ahead of the pack?

Victoria: Yes. Big. Bold. No limits. No safety nets. Have I told you lately how much I like the way you think? It’s like talking to myself, but it’s much more fun.

[ Both laughing ] Hey, I have an idea. Why don’t you take the babcock meeting this afternoon? The cfo can be a little, you know, hard-headed, but I’m sure it’s something you can handle. You could also head up the marketing team status conference? I think they could definitely use some fresh ideas in there.

[ Laughs ] What?

Nate: Those are very high profile.

Victoria: You’re onboard as the interim coo. I don’t see why that would be particularly unusual.

Nate: But we both know how a lot of people feel about me stepping in for nick. And me sitting in your chair. You’re making a hell of a statement with this move.

Victoria: I know. And I don’t care.

******************”**”***

Adam: Thank you for the condolences, but given your husband’s feelings for sally, you’ll understand if your sympathies feel a bit disingenuous.

Nikki: Adam, I am speaking to you as a fellow parent who has experienced loss. And it is unimaginable. The emptiness is overwhelming. Your vision of your future with your child has been taken from you.

Adam: Taken from me? No, no. Ask sally. This was my choice. Our little girl is dead because of me.

Nikki: That is not true.

Adam: Well, it is to sally and she hates me for it. I mean, our little girl didn’t even get to take a breath because of me.

Nikki: Adam, it was an impossible choice.

Adam: But, I mean, you can’t be surprised that I screwed up, right? ‘Cause I’m no hero, I’m not like Nicholas.

Nikki: You saved her life.

Adam: Well, apparently, that doesn’t count.

Nikki: Yes, of course it does. And thank god you did.

Adam: God? God doesn’t factor into this equation because any god who makes someone choose between mother and child isn’t a god that I believe in.

Nikki: You’re angry and that’s understandable, but you cannot let it consume you.

Adam: I don’t know. It seems to be my comfort zone these days. But, nikki, if you will excuse me.

Nikki: Adam, listen. Listen. You have a bright, wonderful son who needs you and you have people who care about you. I hope you can hold onto that.

Recap written by Terry

Adam is pushing everyone away who wants to help him through the grief of losing his infant daughter. Nikki expresses her condolences, stating that she knows what it’s like to lose a child. Years ago when she was married to Jack, Nikki had a miscarriage. Adam finds her concern disingenuous. He also dismisses his father’s concern for him and Sally, to which Adam retorts that Victor never liked Sally.  Victor counters that he would not wish the loss of a child on his worst enemy.

Victor reassures Adam he is there for him and is his biggest supporter, not his enemy. He adds that he’s there to offer his extensive business experience to him to revamp McCall Unlimited. Their conversation turns to Newman Enterprises. Adam states he wants Newman Media back. Since it is under the umbrella of Newman Enterprises, Victor cautions him against going after Newman Media. Adam previously vowed to crush it, which he implied he would do unless he got it back. Victor thinks Adam’s goal stems from the extremely bitter rivalry between Victoria and Adam. Victoria says she plans to destroy McCall Unlimited. Victor notes that Victoria and Adam are headed for a head-on collision.

Victoria does some dismissing of her own when her mother asks if she wants to keep Nickolas away from his job permanently. Victoria claims she will not. Nikki said that forcing Nick to take a leave of absence and dissolving his team is aggressive and unnecessary.

Victoria said that Nick’s warning her about Ashland Locke is continually thrown in her face. Nick issues the same warning about Nate. Victoria claims that while Nick has distractions in his life, Nate, who is meant to be temporarily in Nick’s job, does not.

Victoria and Nate meet to discuss some overseas business. Nate says he’s ready for it. Victoria insists the same when speaking to her mother. Nikki is doubtful that’s the reason Victoria approves of him going away on business. Nikki says Nate is feeding her sense of power.

Kyle and Audra flirt in Chancellor Park, and she plays coy with him, telling him he may put his phone number in her cell phone, but not to expect a call. She mentions that she wants the top spot at Newman Media and is not hesitant to color outside of the lines to get it. In other words, she is willing to perhaps bend a few rules. After she leaves, Kyle orders flowers and diamond earrings to be delivered to her.

Sharon realizes that the ordeal she endured with Cameron is an opportunity to take her pain and anger and turn it into something good. Before Sharon killed him, he left her his company. Sharon says it’s time for a new direction and that maybe the gift in her nightmare was regaining her strength. Everything changes now, she vows.

Victoria: Well, we are back to back meetings today, so I hope you got a good night’s rest.

Nate: I had a good night, but it had nothing to do with sleep.

Victoria: I’d like you to accompany me on several of these meetings, including brock this afternoon.

Nate: With the decarbonization company. He’s pitching a merger?

Victoria: Mm-hmm. I would prefer it be an acquisition.

Nate: Same page.

Victoria: Yes, well the board is giving me some pushback. They think it’s too risky.

Audra: Soy latte, huh? I pegged you for a double macchiato kind of guy.

Kyle: I like to mix it up.

Audra: I remember.

Kyle: You excited? Today’s the big day. Taking on the role of ceo of newman media.

Audra: Acting ceo. The position is mine only as long as nate is needed to fill in for your father-in-law at newman enterprises.

Kyle: I wonder how nick feels about that?

Audra: I mean, he just went through hell. You know, I appreciate victoria looking out for nick. Giving him time and space to regroup.

Kyle: Looking out for him by replacing him.

Audra: Uh, sounds like you have an issue.

Kyle: Let’s just say I am very familiar with how the newman family takes care of their own and it doesn’t always have a whole lot to do with love.

Nikki: Adam, adam wait.

Adam: [ Sighing ] Nikki. What can I do for you?

Nikki: I am so very sorry for your loss.

Sharon: I’m not going to lie. That box from cameron has me freaked out. Everything I thought I was moving on from is front and center again. The idea of going to work, how would I ever focus? How’s sally?

Nick: I think I convinced her that she should stay home, get some rest. I’ll go and check on her just as soon as I make sure you’re settled.

Sharon: How could I ever feel settled with everything this maniac has hanging over me? Even from beyond the grave. What if there’s another box, nick? And another, and another? This guy is in my head and I hate him for it.

Nick: It could be the end of it, you know. His last gasp.

Sharon: It’s hard to believe there will ever be an end to cameron in my life. Leaving me his company? It’s like he knew he was going to die and he thought of everything he could to stay in my life.

Nick: He was one twisted son of a bitch.

Sharon: I hope he’s burning in hell. Sweet pillows of softness!

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Nate: So you know… I am totally prepped to spearhead the babcock meeting. Not just their financials. And you’re right about the cfo. I had done some digging and found some inside information about the guy. Likes, dislikes, quirks. And he’s got some doozies. So, I’ll proceed with those in mind.

Victoria: Why am I not surprised that you’ve already done research?

Nate: Because you know I’ll always have your back. So, of course, I know what’s on your calendar. I’ve been gathering intel so you’d be well armed.

Victoria: Excellent.

Nate: To have the power to change the course of this company… lives… the future. It’s intoxicating. Almost as intoxicating as the way you’re looking at me right now.

Audra: That sounded like you’ve gone a few rounds with a newman or two.

Kyle: Hm, more than a few. I don’t have a problem with most of them. Strong personalities, driven, know what they want. But when somebody crosses a line and somebody always does, things can get pretty extreme.

Audra: Well, coloring inside the lines never got anybody anywhere.

Kyle: Yeah, well, for the newman family, collateral damage is just part of the game, as long as they get what they want.

Audra: That fire can be productive. Or it can burn you.

Kyle: Speaking from experience?

Audra: Ah, let’s just say I’ve been singed more than a few times.

Kyle: You look like you recovered.

Audra: Yeah, you know, I– I used to let it get to me. I’d obsess over what could have been, should have been. But blew up. Maybe my fault. You know, maybe not. Then, you know, working with tucker mccall, you know, he was hardcore. Nothing would get in his way before he went all zen. At first I thought that made him soft, but then, you know, I realized that… that’s just given him more focus. Know what you want, hone in on it and the universe rewards you.

Kyle: So, you play nice and you get to go to the front of the line?

Audra: I didn’t say anything about playing nice.

Kyle: Hm.

Sharon: I go to sleep and cameron is in my dreams. I wake up and I flinch at every little noise. I worry about every delivery. And faith, it takes everything in me not to call her every hour on the hour to make sure that she’s okay.

Nick: Yeah, I’m right there with you. But I’m worried about you too, sharon. You can say you’re fine and that you’re processing it and that there’s nothing for me to worry about, but that ends now. Tell me what’s going on.

Sharon: I killed that man. And I watched him die. It still haunts me.

Nick: You did what you had to do to save your daughter’s life. To save all of us.

Sharon: I know. And I don’t regret that. How could I? But it still pushes me to places I don’t want to go. I just want to stop seeing him everywhere I look and I don’t know how to make that happen. And I am so angry that this bastard has this much control over my life. How do I move on? How do I find peace?

Nick: I don’t, uh, have an answer for that, but… I’m here. All right? I’m all in. For whatever you need.

Sharon: I have an idea. But you would have to get your hands dirty.

Nick: Whatever it takes. If you’re taking an antidepressant

Adam: Mccall needs to be lean and mean. I want to sell off our deadweight and keep anything that can be weaponized against our competitors. And there is only one. Newman media and I want to crush them. I’ll call you back. What?

Victor: I just got a call from nikki. She’s worried about you. And so am I.

[ Phone chiming ]

Nikki: What on earth?

Victoria: You know, one way that I would like to expand is to grow our global commercial real estate. We already have a very strong presence in asia and in the middle east, but I’m hearing about some very interesting eu opportunities.

Nate: Sounds intriguing.

Victoria: Mm-hmm. And, you know, now that my kids are gonna be away at boarding school, it’s gonna give me time this fall to do some more in-depth research.

Nate: So, a business trip?

Victoria: Yeah. That’s what the jet’s for.

[ Nate laughing ] And you know, I know that our last business trip didn’t really go as planned, I understand that, but that’s behind us. We’re free to be together now and… it’s not gonna be all about business. We’re gonna have to absorb the local culture to get a feel for the different marketplaces.

Nate: The food, the night life, you. My bag is already packed.

[ Door opening ]

Nikki: Sorry for the interruption.

Victoria: No. Not at all.

Nikki: Nate. Would you excuse us? I need to speak with victoria alone.

Victoria: Mother!

Nate: All good. All good. I need to prep for the babcock meeting. Nikki, I will get the quarterly account receivables to you for your review. I think you’ll be pleased with the numbers.

Nikki: I am sure I will be. Thank you. He’s meeting with babcock alone?

Victoria: He’s prepared, he’s enthusiastic, he has a great attitude, unlike you.

Nikki: Is your intention to keep nicholas away from newman enterprises for good? (Wheezing)

Victoria: Of course I’m not boxing nick out. Why would you think that?

Nikki: I just found out that you dissolved nicholas’ support team. Now he has barely stepped away, on your orders, temporarily, but now you seem to be making moves that will be more permanent.

Victoria: You don’t understand.

Nikki: No, I don’T. Why don’t you explain it to me?

Victoria: Mother, this is a very fast paced business. It’s constantly evolving. You have to stay one step ahead. It’s not as though I fired nicholas’ team. I’ve just reassigned them to different departments so that they’re not sitting around collecting paychecks, waiting for nick to return.

Nikki: Why not have them continue in the same capacity for nate? Help him get acquainted with his job as acting coo while nicholas is gone.

Victoria: No. No, nate doesn’t need his hand held. He’s done the work. He knows the position.

[ Nikki chuckling ]

Nikki: I’m sure he’s been studying up for weeks.

Victoria: He’s very hands on.

Nikki: Oh, I have no doubt.

Victoria: His drive and his energy and his focus. He’s made it clear that he wants to take on more of the workload. He wants to be fully involved.

Nikki: Are you suggesting that nicholas wasn’t?

Victoria: Nicholas has and continues to have all these outside distractions that keep him from giving the 110% and that’s what we expect at newman.

Nikki: Wow. You have an answer for everything. But this doesn’t feel like a business move. It feels personal. A way for you to strike out at your brother.

Victoria: Mother, it’s not personal. It’s necessary. Nick’s team has shown that they’re not on board with our current agenda. And I– I’m sorry, but I have no other choice.

Nikki: I don’t even know what that means.

Victoria: Like nick, his team doesn’t see adam or mccall as a threat. Nate is willing to go up against mccall. That’s the kind of leadership that I’m looking for in my coo.

Nikki: I see. Well, as your co-ceo, I’m going on record and warning you that I find this to be very aggressive and unnecessary.

Victoria: It’s just good business. I wish you could see the larger picture.

Nikki: Oh, I can see all too clearly, victoria.

Victoria: So, whatever it is, you’re dying to say it, so go ahead.

Nikki: Is all of this retaliation because nicholas warned you about nate?

Victoria: I told you my logic.

Nikki: This has nothing to do with logic. This is about ashland.

Victoria: Don’t be ridiculous!

Nikki: Nicholas warned you time and time again about him, but you refused to listen. And he was right. I think deep down, you’re worried that he’s right this time as well.

Nick: I hope that gave you some freedom.

Sharon: I should have said something.

Nick: For cameron?

Sharon: No. His victims. All the people he hurt, the deaths he caused, the damage he did. Like that woman who lives in los angeles. The one he assaulted. I hope she knows that cameron’s dead and that he can never hurt her again and that she has found peace.

Nick: And you?

Sharon: It might take a little while longer. It’s not just the fear. The space cameron’s taking up in my head, but it’s the guilt.

Nick: The guilt?

Sharon: I brought this maniac into our lives. Our daughter was kidnapped. She might’ve been killed. All because of one stupid choice I made years ago.

Nick: You cannot blame yourself.

Sharon: How can I not? Faith, you know, as strong as she was through this ordeal, this is going to mark her. All of us. In ways we can’t even know yet. All of the psychology classes and degrees in the world can’t give me that answer.

Nick: You already know the answer. It’s love. You and faith are not alone in this. You have me and mariah and tessa and noah. So many people who love you both and will be there for you no matter what.

Sharon: We’re here for you, too.

Nick: Luckiest guy in the world.

[ Nick sighing ] You don’t want cameron’s business. Let’s get rid of this. Let’s throw it away and be done with it and cameron forever.

Sharon: Nick, wait. Watching all that misery turn to ash gave me an idea.

Audra: Newman media was an early adopter of ai. You know, but if we really ramp up, increase focus on using it as a distribution tool, set up algorithms to select content for our users, I mean, it could be a gamechanger for our metrics. Oh, I’m sorry. I’m probably boring you.

Kyle: That would be impossible.

Audra: You know, I– I’ve wanted this for so long. You know, to be at the table, just making decisions that can change everything. And it’s– it’s actually happening.

Kyle: I’m excited for you.

Audra: I’m excited for me, too. And I don’t know how long I’ll be ceo, but I’m going to light newman up every minute I’m there.

Kyle: No coloring in the lines for you.

Audra: Oh, no. The brighter, the bigger, the better. Uh, what’s wrong?

Kyle: Oh, you know, all this talk about coloring outside the lines has inspired me.

Audra: Okay?

Kyle: It’s a beautiful morning. Perfect time to live in the now.

Audra: If you’re gonna ask me something, you should just ask me. (Buzz) are you guys telling secrets?

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue. What can you do with sensitive skin?

Kyle: We don’t have time for what I want to ask you.

Audra: Good. Because the answer would be no.

Kyle: Oh, the big meeting.

Audra: Lots of them.

Kyle: Okay. How about later?

Audra: You are so–

Kyle: Charming? Irresistible?

Audra: Relentless.

Kyle: I’ll take it.

Audra: Put in your number. If I have time, I’ll call you.

Kyle: If you have time. There you go.

Audra: Don’t get your hopes up.

Kyle: You’ll call.

Audra: Oh.

[ Audra chuckling ]

Victor: I gotta tell you, I am deeply sympathetic and so is nikki to both of you and sally. Loss of a child is just unimaginable.

Adam: If you say it’s better this way or if everything happens for a reason, I’m out of here.

Victor: Son, I’m just here to find out how you’re coping. And I wanna know if there’s anything we can do to help you.

Adam: [ Sighing ] I’m– I’m good.

Victor: No, you’re not. Be honest with me. You and sally are going through hell right now.

Adam: The only time you’ve said sally’s name was like a curse. So, now you care about sally?

Victor: Son, I wouldn’t wish this on anyone. Not on my worst enemy. And I saw the joy on her face, and the joy on your face, anticipating the birth of your child.

Adam: Well, good news for you, she never wants to see me again. So, I guess you can take the win on this one, okay? Nikki already gave me the “don’t be angry” talk. She said let it go. Focus on connor. On the people who love me. I mean, what a laugh that is, right? Not exactly a popular guy these days. I mean, not ever, come to think about it. But at least I have my work, right? Is that where I should thank you?

Victor: I don’t want you to thank me. I’m here to tell you how to best get over your grief. You should throw all of your energies, all of your mental capacity into building mccall into the powerhouse it can be.

Adam: Yes. And the potential’s there.

Victor: Yes.

Adam: So, first, we clean house. And anyone who is loyal to tucker’s gonna get a severance package. And then we’re gonna focus on infrastructure. The entertainment divisions are gonna stay. Anything else is gonna be jettisoned and we’re gonna use that profit to focus on horizontal diversification. Specifically, the media divisions.

Victor: So, you’re gonna go after newman.

Adam: It’s good to have goals, right?

Victor: That doesn’t mean that you go after the newman media division.

Adam: I built that company. I made it. And I want it back.

Victor: Is that what this is about?

Adam: Pretty much.

Victor: Or, is it about you wanting to recapture the wonderful days you had with sally at newman media? Hm?

Adam: I appreciate the armchair analysis, but this is strictly about business.

Victor: Let me tell you something. Trying to recapture those days is a mistake. And so is attacking newman media.

Adam: I think that it is brilliant.

Victor: My boy… newman media is part of the newman family portfolio. Don’t mess with that.

Nick: So, you’re interested in cameron’s company?

Sharon: Not so much his company.

Nick: You lost me.

Sharon: What I could do with it. Kirsten incorporated is a tech company. It must have assets and some capital, right?

Nick: I’m sure it has some value. Unless it imploded during kirsten’s years in prison.

Sharon: What if I could take that value and make something good out of this nightmare? There has to be something that I can do with this that would make a difference in people’s lives. Either turning a profit with the company or maybe selling it out right. Donating all the proceeds to charity.

Nick: I like the sound of that.

Sharon: Who knows? Maybe if I take control of cameron’s company, I take back the power he has over me and my life. My actions, my reactions. Instead of running away from who cameron was and what he did, I will transform that hate and anger and fear into an opportunity to help people.

Nick: You just thought of that right now?

Sharon: Maybe I’ve been thinking about it for a long time. You know, the past few years have made me consider what I want out of my life. What my purpose is. And rey was an influence in that. You know, he always made the right choice, even if it was unpopular. He wanted to make a difference every single day and he did so. And now I want that. I’m ready for that. And you’re right. It has everything to do with love. I have been so blessed all my life with so much love. Such an amazing support system of friends and family who have been there for me through everything. Battling cancer, learning how to live with bipolar and now… this horror with cameron. As much as he terrorized me, maybe the gift of this nightmare is that I have found the strength that I’d forgotten I have.

Nick: I think you’re one of the strongest people I know.

Sharon: Well, I lost myself. For a little while there, I did some things, I hurt some people, but I own that. And those things made me who I am, but they are not all I am. And maybe this… is a gift. It’s time for a new direction. It’s time for a new future. With downy infusions,

Victoria: How could you bring up ashland?

Nikki: It seems very appropriate given the circumstances.

Victoria: My god, mom! Every time I do something that you and dad don’t approve of, it’s like you throw that name at me! It’s almost like you enjoy rubbing that awful mistake in my face.

Nikki: The only reason I mentioned it was to try to get through to you.

Victoria: Well,

[ Sighing ] Message received. If there’s nothing else, I have a very full day today.

Nikki: Victoria, I am just trying to understand. You’ve forced nicholas to take a leave of absence he doesn’t want, you got rid of his staff and now you seem to be preparing for and all-out war with adam.

Victoria: A war that he’s starting.

Nikki: You have a responsibility to the board, young lady, and the family.

Victoria: I know that!

Nikki: Oh, do you? You’ve alienated nicholas, you’re going after adam. And nate is just cheering you on.

Victoria: Nate is supporting me. Which is a lot more than I can say about my own family right now!

Nikki: How do you think your father is going to react to this?

Victoria: If he would listen me instead of jumping to conclusions and judging me, maybe we could have a conversation about it.

Nate: Sorry to interrupt. The meeting with babcock is set. I wanted to brief you. And you, nikki, as well, of course.

Nikki: I have work to do. Victoria can fill me in. Excuse me.

Nate: Your mother’s not too pleased with the changes.

Victoria: Well, if you’re not pissing people off, then you’re not doing it right.

[ Knocking at door ] Come in.

Audra: Hi, I know you’re crazy busy, but I wanted to give you an update on some new directives that I want to put in place for, uh, newman media. Building off of nate’s plans.

Nate: Time for a quick meeting?

Victoria: Sure. I don’t see why not. Let’s see what you’ve learned from your boss.

Adam: Look, I’m your son, I’m not your puppet.

Victor: I’m concerned about you.

Adam: Well, you shouldn’t be, okay? I’m fine. Especially if people stop telling me how to act, how to feel, what to think, okay? Because I’ve never been clearer on what I want and how to get it.

Victor: Son, you’re running on emotions. That’s not a good thing. When you’re trying to rebuild a company into the powerhouse that it can be. Let me give you a piece of advice. Whenever you make a business decision, keep emotions out of it.

Adam: Okay, well, thank you for the advice that I didn’t need, but I’m gonna run mccall the way that I see fit.

[ Victor sighing ]

Victor: Always a smart alec, right? I offered to be your sounding board. I offered for you to take advantage of the vast experience I have in building companies. That can change in an instant. Don’t forget that.

Adam: So, are you threatening me, now?

Victor: You take that any way you want. But I’m telling you… I’m not your enemy. I’m the biggest supporter you have. Don’t mess with it.

Kyle: Gerard? It’s kyle abbott. I’d like to have some flowers delivered. No! No, not to marchetti. These are for an audra charles. She’s staying at the athletic club. Uh, I’m thinking… something a little wild and gorgeous, unique. That sounds good. And the note, um… “from one overachiever to another, thanks for showing me your moves.” No– no name. She’ll know. Oh, gerrard. Um… I’d like some earrings as well. I’m thinking diamonds. Yes. Just charge it to my account. Thanks.

[ Kyle sighing ]

I have type 2 diabetes, I got this $1,000 camera for only $41 on dealdash. Dealdash.Com, online auctions since 2009. This playstation 5 sold for only 50 cents. This ipad pro sold for less than $34. And this nintendo switch, sold for less than $20. I got this kitchenaid stand mixer for only $56. I got this bbq smoker for 26 bucks. And shipping is always free. Go to dealdash.Com right now and see how much you can save. Join me in the

Victoria: You have really done your homework. Not that I would expect anything less.

Nate: Out of the park, audra. I’m looking forward to these next steps.

Audra: I plan to blow you away. All right, well, I have the crawford pictures meeting to prep for, but I’ll keep you updated.

Nate: Thank you again for taking on those negotiations. They are going to love you.

Audra: That’s the goal.

Victoria: Good work, audra. Thank you.

Audra: Thank you.

Nate: That one is gold. The fire, the energy, the drive. And the creativity? I couldn’t ask for a better acting ceo at newman media.

Victoria: Well, she’s definitely on the top of her game, but she’s only there because you put her there.

Nate: I am very excited for this next phase of newman media and newman enterprises. I think the restructuring will make all the difference.

Victoria: And with audra doing so beautifully at newman media, we are free to focus on making sure that mccall is nothing but misery for adam.

Nikki: Oh, I hope I’m not interrupting.

Victor: Hi, sweetheart.

Nikki: Hi.

Adam: Uh, no. We just finished. Good chat.

Victor: All right, son.

Adam: As always.

Nikki: Well, I’m glad you were able to catch up with adam. How was he?

[ Victor exhaling ]

Victor: He’s stuffing down his anger and his grief. No good. It’ll backfire. And then he wants to take down newman media. And that’s a very bad combination.

Nikki: I’m almost as worried about victoria.

Victor: Why?

Nikki: She has completely sidelined nicholas. Restructured his support team to suit nate. She’s getting ready to go to battle with tucker mccall, again, with nate’s backing. I mean, he is feeding her sense of power and she will not listen to anyone else.

Victor: Oh, boy. Oh, boy. That means that victoria and adam are aiming for a head-on collision.

Nick: You know, all the years I’ve known you, sharon, one thing never changes. You always manage to surprise me.

Sharon: Well, get ready. Because I have no idea what the future holds, but it’s going to surprise me, too. I can’t wait to share this with mariah and tessa. Not just the idea, but this very moment. The shift from fear to empowerment. Going from being afraid, wanting to hide and stay safe, to… trusting myself. And following my instincts, wherever they lead. Finding that strength that was always there. I want to teach them that there is always a way to come back from those dark moments. Not just come back, but flourish. Everything changes now.

Sharon: Who’s there?

Nick: It’s nick. Morning.

Sharon: New job, delivery man?

Nick: Oh, yeah, nick’s courier service. On time or we keep it.

***********************

Nick: You know, I always did love that necklace.

Sharon: Well, you gave it to me a million years ago.

Nick: Well, I have excellent taste.

Sharon: You do. You know, you didn’t have to come here and check on me. Which I know is the reason why you’re here. I’m fine. Just like I was last night when we spoke on the phone.

Nick: Well, you did that thing where you politely blow me off because you don’t want me to worry about you, so I figured the best thing I can do is just crash your place and eyeball you and see how you’re doing. So, how are you?

Recap written by Eva

Lauren: You saw Phyllis? Oh, my god. How– how was she? How did she seem?

Michael: Oh, you know, same old phyllis. She was wearing a trench coat and dark glasses to avoid being recognized.

Lauren: I would’ve given anything to see her. Oh, my god. It must have been just so surreal.

Michael: Well, that’s one word for it. Behold, behold.

Lauren: What?

Michael: What your best pal walked in on, not to mention, myself, barely clothed.

[ Lauren laughing ]

Lauren: This is so romantic. The candles, the flowers, and ooh, look at this. My favorite champagne. You put a lot of effort into this.

Michael: You are so worth it.

Lauren: Ah, and then phyllis crashes this?

Michael: Yeah. Where she wiped out an entire platter of chocolate-covered strawberries.

[ Lauren chuckling ] Uh, well, you must get an appetite running away from the law.

***************************

Lauren: But she has to be terrified to come all the way back here and then wind up in a cell.

Michael: Well, she is, but her only other option is equally grim.

Lauren: Right. Looking over her shoulder, the rest of her life is no choice.

Michael: Or she could put her faith in me, which seems a no-brainer.

Lauren: Honey, she’s scared.

Michael: As well she should be. Do you know what she told me? “Let me think about it.” Before she ate the last strawberry and vamoosed. Now, all I can do is, wait. Wait!

Summer: Good, you’re here already. My mom texted me. She said that she saw you.

Michael: Yes, um, you want some breakfast? My treat.

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: No, thank you. I just want to hear about my mom, I mean, what happened? Where is she? What is she going to do?

Michael: Uh, if you don’t mind, I’m going to take those one at a time. Um, as to what happened, I was expecting lauren for a romantic rendezvous and, uh, phyllis knocked on the door instead.

Summer: How did she look? Is she okay?

Michael: She’s stressed. She’s tired from being on the run. She’s very concerned about you.

Summer: Okay, but what– what happened? What did– what did she say?

Michael: We had a very productive talk about her options. She ate all the chocolate covered strawberries and then she left.

Summer: That’s it? She didn’t say where she’s been hiding or where we could find her?

Michael: I’m sorry, she did not.

Summer: But in her text, she said that she might have found a way out of this mess. I mean, is that true? Could she come home soon?

[ Knocking on door ]

Sharon: Who’s there?

Nick: It’s nick. Morning.

Sharon: New job, delivery man?

Nick: Oh, yeah, nick’s courier service. On time or we keep it.

[ Sharon laughing ]

Sharon: Like it. How’s your first day on leave?

Nick: Not great, not loving it, but what choice do I have?

Sharon: Well, you want some coffee? Although, you seem a little amped up already.

Nick: Yeah, I’m just trying to figure out what I’m gonna do with the rest of my day. You know, I can deliver you this, which was left for you at the gate.

Sharon: Um, I’m sure that’s just my shampoo, you should set it right there. Actually, I do need some help this morning with this. I just don’t have the skills, and you were always so good at this.

Nick: Happy to be of service.

[ Sharon chuckling ] All right.

Jack: You’re thinking what I am? That what happened yesterday should never have happened? Ultomiris is for adults with generalized myasthenia gravis

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by… with a smooth clean shave,

Nick: Thank you.

Sharon: Mm-hmm.

Sharon: Um, it’s a little intense sometimes. Little noises or flashes of light just send me right back into the nightmare.

[ Sharon sighing ] Cameron kidnapped faith. He wanted to kill us. And then I remember to breathe and relax and everything’s okay. We’re okay, it’s over. Have you talked to faith?

Nick: Yeah, she was my first phone call this morning. Uh, she sounds good, you know? She’s happy to be back with her friends. She sounds strong. Wish my other daughter was just as great. I–

Sharon: What’s going on with summer?

Nick: Have you heard that phyllis is alive and on the run?

Sharon: Yes, I have heard that.

Nick: Well, not surprisingly, she has dragged summer into her drama and now it’s blowing up her marriage.

Sharon: Phyllis is a firestorm. Anybody who tries to stop her or tries to help her ends up getting burned, and far too often it is someone she loves. But I’m glad that summer has you.

Nick: Yeah, I have lots of time to worry about her and sally and you and faith now.

Sharon: So, this leave of absence?

Nick: All victoria. I told her it wasn’t necessary, but she insisted.

Sharon: For how long?

Nick: Seems indefinite.

Sharon: Okay, well, being that it’s your sister, I have to assume that she’s just concerned about you and everything that you’ve been dealing with.

Nick: I have a feeling her concern isn’t very sisterly.

Sharon: Well, you can always come back to work at the coffee house.

[ Both laughing ] No one was ever as good as you are at refilling those sugar dispensers.

Nick: Oh, that is a tempting offer.

Sharon: And I’ll throw in all the free coffee you can drink.

Nick: Okay.

Sharon: You know what? I have to get to work.

Nick: Yeah.

[ Sharon grunting ]

Sharon: Hey. This isn’t my shampoo. This is from an out-of-state law firm. That doesn’t sound good.

Kyle: Which part shouldn’t have happened?

Jack: The division of this family. Traci had to stage an intervention to stop immediate warfare. I don’t know how successful she was. I think at best we have a temporary detente.

Kyle: Well, détentes are overrated.

Jack: Kyle, I understand your pain. That phyllis would use her daughter to help her out of this mess of her own making. That she would force summer to choose between her husband and her mother. It’s just more damage to this family courtesy of that woman and her hatred.

Kyle: Summer was no victim. She was right in step with her mother. She chose phyllis over and over. Saw my mother get charged with murder, saw us in pain, still, she did nothing.

Jack: Summer made a mistake.

Kyle: It wasn’t that long ago that she was furious at me because I lied to her about working with victor to get adam out of jabot.

Jack: Yeah, that I remember quite well.

Kyle: She was furious. I lied. She could barely get past the fact that I have violated our trust, and I own that mistake, but now she has done exactly the same thing, lying on top of lying. See, this time, it wasn’t about a job at a company. It was about my mother’s life. Her entire future.

Jack: And she wants to make amends now.

Kyle: How? She let me believe she was grieving her mother. Let my mom face the possibility of life in prison. Let me tie myself in knots trying to support my mother. I was desperate to help summer. Desperate. And she shut me out. Disregarded my love, disregarded my feelings for her and my mother.

Jack: There’s no doubt about it, she was wrong, but are you so hurt that you won’t get past what has happened?

Kyle: It is not about hurt. I don’t know who she is anymore. Or maybe I’m just finally seeing she really is her mother’s daughter. Summer did whatever she needed to get what she wanted. Knowing she’s capable of that and so easily, I don’t see how I can trust her again.

Jack: But don’t you think that’s a little harsh?

Kyle: Summer and i are separating dad. I told her to move out.

Michael: Your mother’s future is still pretty much up in the air. And more than a lot of it depends on phyllis.

Summer: You’re gonna help her, right?

Michael: Of course I will. I’m committed to bringing phyllis back. She has that special type of mayhem we all need in our life. But your mother is a stubborn woman. Even with the odds against her, she insists that things play out on her terms. And that is just something I can’t promise.

Summer: And that’s why she didn’t stick around?

Michael: It’s not like I didn’t try. I begged her to turn herself in. I ran up and down the list of reasons why it’d be the least stupid thing she could do. I told her we love her, we miss her. We’re ready to fight for her.

Summer: And she still refused.

Michael: She’s afraid. Christine is at the end of all this. Phyllis is convinced that christine will hit her with every charge in the book and even a few extra just for kicks. The only commitment I could get from your mom is that she would think about it and examine her options.

Summer: Even if there are legal consequences, I mean, it’s got to be better than all of this craziness. The uncertainty.

Michael: I would like this all to be over so I could see you smile again.

Summer: As much as I love my mom and I want her to come home… I– I– I still can’t believe that she did this to us. To me, I mean, even if we figure out all of her problems, there’s still going to be collateral damage.

Michael: What, uh, specific collateral damage are we talking about?

Summer: I might need a lawyer myself. (Wheezing)

Sharon: “Dear miss newman, this letter is to inform you that I represent the estate of cameron kirsten. Per his instructions, I’ve been authorized to forward you the items included in this box in the event of his death.”

Jack: You and summer are separating? I am so sorry it has come to that.

Kyle: I don’t see any other way.

Jack: When we saw you last night, you said you realized that staying away wasn’t going to fix anything. I assumed, I hoped, that that was leading toward healing.

Kyle: There was no hope in that decision. It was resignation. Why put off the inevitable?

Jack: Kyle, is this really what you want? You’re ready to give up on your marriage?

Kyle: Summer chose to do that when she decided to betray everything I thought we had and– and so damn easily. Who knows? Maybe if she hadn’t gotten caught, she would still be lying to me.

Jack: Oh, you’re in pain. And it’s deep and there are no easy remedies, but I’m sure you’re also aware there has been a lot of forgiveness in this house recently for crimes far more serious than summer’S.

Kyle: I guess I’m not as forgiving as you are.

Jack: I don’t believe that. I believe you are forgiving. You forgave your mother. I did too.

Kyle: Not the same. When I see summer, I see someone who didn’t love me enough to be honest. She took me and everything we had for granted. She blew all of our trust to hell. How do you love without that? How is there ever any coming back from what she’s done?

Michael: I would never turn you away if you needed help, summer, but I’m not sure why you would need legal representation.

Summer: Uh, I haven’t been completely upfront with you.

Michael: Oh.

[ Summer sighing ] My morning was going so well. What did you do?

Summer: Mom reached out to me first, not daniel.

Michael: What?

Summer: And he covered for me. And I was keeping her– her secret, unlike him. And when I found out that he was telling everyone, I was furious. So, when she revealed where she was hiding…

Michael: You said nothing.

Summer: Yeah. I brought her food and clothes. I tried to help her figure everything out and I don’t know how many laws I broke. I mean, aiding and abetting a fugitive, obstruction of justice. Uh, how much time can you get for them?

Michael: All right, all right you’re getting ahead of yourself.

Summer: Am I? Because chance told me that christine was just waiting to find my mom before she brought charges against me, so it kind of seems like it’s going to happen.

Michael: You spoke to chance about possible charges against you?

Summer: As a friend.

Michael: Uh, when your mother is on the run for serious crimes and you’ve aided and abetted her. Never, ever, ever talk to policemen as a friend. Can– can we agree on that before moving forward?

Summer: Yeah.

Michael: Is there any more of that collateral damage you mentioned?

Summer: Uh, my husband hates me.

Michael: Kyle could never hate you. He loves you.

Summer: I was protecting my mom while his mom sat in prison. I mean, I– I lied to him for weeks. And I hated it so much. Even when I wasn’t lying, I was pushing him away and now, he can’t even look at me so… I might also need a divorce attorney.

Michael: No. It’s too soon. You’re young, you’re in love, you have a child. Kyle will come around.

Summer: Michael, he already said that he wants a separation. He asked me to move out. Does it sound like he’s getting ready to forgive me?

Michael: Look, you just have to give kyle some time. You know, this has been rough for everybody.

Audra: If you’re thinking about making, you know, a smooth escape, look, I get it. No pressure from my end.

Kyle: I don’t wanna go home.

Audra: Excuse me?

The long-lasting scent

of gain flings

Audra: I’m sorry about the intrusion. I’m–

Summer: Audra charles. Yes, she was the one that broke noah’s heart a while ago.

Audra: But luckily, we both moved on. I hope he and allie are very happy back in london. And you are michael baldwin. Quite a phenom in this town. Attorney extraordinaire.

[ Michael laughing ]

Michael: It depends on who you talk to. But I also know of you from my dealings with newman enterprises. Victor’s acquisition of mccall unlimited.

Audra: That’s right. Small world.

Michael: Yeah.

Summer: I haven’t seen you since, um, the gala.

Audra: That’s right. It was such a terrible night. You know, I was there when your mother collapsed. To later learn that she died. Look, I can’t imagine the grief that you were going through, but how wonderful that she’s actually alive. Apparently somewhere. You must feel like you’re on a roller coaster. You know, but thank god you have your husband and his family to support you.

Summer: Is there something that you want?

Jack: Kyle, I know you’re angry and you have every right to be, but I honestly believe that your love for summer is much stronger than what you’re feeling right now. Listen, kyle, I know this from experience. Anger is a very potent emotion. It can blind you. It can fuel you to make decisions you’ll come to regret. All I’m suggesting is that you not act this second. Just give it some time for the anger to dissipate, and you can reevaluate.

Kyle: I have thought this through, dad. This decision is not based off of emotion. It is based off of fact.

Jack: The reality is this is a–

Kyle: Oh, no, no, no. The reality is my wife has proven she will always, always side with her mother against mine and me. That is a fact. And phyllis will be back in our lives soon. Whispering into summer’s ear, also a fact. So tell me, dad. How does my already broken marriage survive that chaos?

Sharon: This cannot be happening. This is just like before. Random packages being delivered here, at the coffee house just to freak me out.

Nick: We’re not playing cameron’s games anymore. Sharon, he’s dead. Let’s get rid of it. I’ll throw it out right now. We can burn it if you want.

Sharon: Wait, no. We should go through it first.

Nick: Why? It’s just gonna drag up memories that we’re trying to forget.

Sharon: Believe me, no one is more creeped out by this than me. But, no matter what is in that box, cameron can’t hurt us anymore.

If you, like many people,

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Nick: Seems like cameron was into journaling all his teenage angst. Uh, here’s a good one. “I’m going to be somebody, not like these losers. I’m going to be rich. Super rich. So rich no one can stop me and I’m going to marry the most beautiful woman in the world. Leave all these suckers behind.” I mean, the kid had goals.

Sharon: Let’s see what’s in here. Hmm. Frankie.

Nick: Okay.

Sharon: Oh, and this must be…

Nick: The dog’s ashes.

[ Clicks tongue ] Wow. I never pegged cameron to be a dog lover.

Sharon: Yeah. Me neither. Wow. So much for the family photo with his parents.

Nick: With faces ripped out. Guessing they were pretty close.

Sharon: And there’s frankie, I think.

Nick: Yeah. Something else in here what’s this? What do you think this is doing in here?

Sharon: It’s clearly paperwork for cameron’s company, kirsten incorporated. Oh, my gosh. Cameron’s entire business has been signed over to me.

Nick: What?

Jack: Kyle, there are no easy answers.

Kyle: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Let me spell it out for you. Phyllis will swoop back into town. Michael will do his thing. She will face minimal charges and go back to upending everyone’s life because that’s who she is. She will not be repentant. She will still hate my mother and she has a tidal pull on summer. I refuse to be a part of that circus, and I will not let my son be a part of it as well.

Jack: Yeah, I’ve been concerned about how this all affects harrison, too. There’s been too much anger and upset in this house for too long.

Kyle: Yeah, and too much has been generated by my wife. Dad, I– I remember. I remember, right there, when I approached summer about telling harrison that phyllis had died and she refused. She came up with all kinds of excuses and I felt sorry for her. What an idiot I was. Of course she knew phyllis was alive. Dad, and she was willing to put harrison right in the middle of her damn drama.

Jack: For what it’s worth, kyle, I honestly think summer is remorseful

Kyle: Please, the tears. The desperation to talk, to apologize, and she’s suddenly all about our great love. As if she didn’t treat me like the enemy for weeks! Blame me for not giving her the space she needed! All so she could keep phyllis’s dirty little secret. Oh, the entire time, the entire time I was trying to help her. Be there for her. Comfort her. She was sacrificing my mother to protect hers.

Jack: And diane has forgiven summer.

Kyle: How forgiving do you think mom will be towards phyllis? No matter how resigned she seems about doing nothing and letting phyllis’s karma come back and bite her? When those two come face to face again, all bets are off. Yeah, dad, look at what she just pulled with me. Lying about harrison? If she’s willing to play me like that, how far is she willing to go to make phyllis pay for trying to destroy her life? You cannot tell me you’re not a little worried about that.

Jack: I will allow that that could become an issue.

Kyle: Oh, it is already a giant issue, dad. As much as traci wants peace in this house, I see nothing but trouble ahead, especially for me and summer. I will do everything I can to protect my son. That is why my mind is made up. That is why summer and i are separating.

Audra: I apologize again for the interruption. I just wanted to offer my condolences if your mother really is gone.

Summer: Thanks.

Audra it was nice to see you again. And nice to officially meet you.

Michael: Same here.

[ Michael laughing ] Something tells me that that one is a real piece of work.

Summer: You wouldn’t be wrong. Is it just me, or when it comes to my mom, does everyone in this town want information or have an opinion?

Michael: Well, the phyllis trauma has sparked morbid curiosity from more than a few corners.

Summer: The worst part about it is whether she decides to come home or stay away, it’s just gonna get worse. When migraine strikes, you’re faced with a choice.

Nick: Cameron left you his company? This cannot be legit. It’s got to be another one of his crazy games.

Sharon: Well, nothing he does surprises me. Check the date, it’s from last year.

Nick: Which means he put all this in motion just in case his plan failed or he died. It’s an amazing way to keep toying with you from beyond the grave.

Sharon: Yeah, well, in some twisted way, I guess it makes sense, but it looks like it’s real. His attorney wants me to contact him to finalize transfer of ownership.

Nick: Well, if it’s bogus, it’ll be easy to figure out, but it does sort of prove his sick devotion to you. He always said that you were the love of his life. What better way to stay united with you even after his death than to leave you with this company?

[ Sharon sighing ]

Sharon: As if I would want anything from that horrible man, dead or alive. It’s like taking blood money.

Nick: I’m with you on that. Plus, he was in and out of prison for years. I mean, this company’s got to be in ruins.

Sharon: I don’t care if it’s worth a fortune. I am done with cameron and his manipulations. As far as I’m concerned, this is garbage.

Kyle: Hi.

Mariah: Hey, sunshine. I take that back. Maybe the forecast is cloudy with a bit of summer being a bitch?

Kyle: Turns out you were right.

Mariah: God, I really do love to hear that, but you look so miserable. It’s making me feel sorry about that. What’s going on?

Kyle: I’d rather talk about you.

Mariah: Uh, coffee and pastries for tessa, aria is next level cute. That’s me. Now back to you. Talk to me.

Kyle: All right. After I saw you, I took chance to a room at the athletic club where phyllis was hiding out, and of course, summer warned her and she was long gone.

Mariah: Do you have any idea where she is?

Kyle: Nope. But summer is consumed with the idea of bringing her mother back to as few charges as possible.

Mariah: Of course she is. ‘Cause all mommy did was fake her own death, try to destroy your mom’s life and kill a man, so there’s nothing to see here.

Kyle: And as obsessed as summer is with getting her mother to come back home, she’s just as focused on smoothing things over with me. She lied to my face for weeks and now she can’t stop saying how sorry she is.

Mariah: Is she actually sorry or is she just sorry she got caught?

Kyle: No, exactly. I mean, she goes on and on about how much she loves me and how special our marriage is, as if things could ever go back to the way they were.

Mariah: I’m sorry. What? Look, regardless of what I think about summer, you guys built a life together, a family.

Kyle: And she blew it up. I mean the lies and– and the manipulation I mean, my dad, he keeps talking about forgiveness, even my mom, but… I see now what you saw all along. Summer is going to summer. This wasn’t an isolated incident. This is who she is. And how can I ever trust again that she will put our marriage first, and our son? And there is zero doubt that phyllis is coming back into our lives, so I refuse to raise harrison in the toxicity that phyllis and summer call love.

Mariah: Man, I thought being right would feel…. a lot better than this.

Kyle: Thanks for letting me vent. And, oh, yeah, would you believe that summer went to my mom? I mean, the woman she was willing to let spend years behind bars, the woman she can’t stand, and asked her to intervene. I mean, how crazy is that?

Mariah: [ Clicks tongue ] Um, maybe not as crazy as you think. Summer… she came to me too.

Kyle: You’re kidding me?

Mariah: Consorting with the enemy. She must be desperate, right?

Kyle: What did you tell her?

Mariah: I told her that she’s not good enough for you. Never was.

Kyle: All that tact. That’s what I love about you.

Mariah: Hey, I’m just speaking my truth.

[ Kyle sighing ] Look… as screwed up as summer is and as screwed up as this whole situation is… I think she loves you. Badly and– and selfishly and in horrible, broken ways. But she definitely still loves you. And I think under the broken pieces of your heart… you might still love her, too.

Kyle: Love has nothing to do with this. It’s about trust, and summer took a sledgehammer to it. That’s why I want a separation. I told summer to move out.

Summer: Hi.

Jack: Hi, summer.

Summer: I guess that kyle’s told you everything.

Jack: I am so sorry.

Summer: I didn’t mean for any of this to happen.

Jack: I know that.

Summer: [ Sighing ] I’ve made such a mess of things.

Jack: Hey, come here.

[ Summer sobbing ]

Summer: I’m sorry. I’m sorry for everything.

Jack: You were put in a very difficult situation.

Summer: No, I can’t make any excuses. Everything I did, it was my choice. I could have gotten the murder charges against diane dropped a lot sooner. I mean, you– you must hate me, too.

Jack: No. No, I could never hate you. In part because I know, for better or worse, you will always protect the mother who was your world.

Summer: Even when she’s turning it upside down.

[ Scoffing ] I… I’ve tried to explain everything to kyle. I’ve tried to… apologize, but it just feels like everything I do is pushing him further away. I guess I deserve that, right? I mean, he just… was trying to love me and I– I betrayed him. I betrayed everything that he thought that our marriage was.

Jack: Kyle is deeply hurt right now.

Summer: I love him. Even as I was screwing everything up, I never stopped loving him. And now he just– he doesn’t want to hear it. I don’t want this. I don’t want a separation. I don’t want to leave his house, harrison, our family. I don’t know what to do, jack. How– how do I convince kyle to forgive me?

Jack: I’m going to tell you what I told my family yesterday. There’s no forcing forgiveness. Kyle wants a separation so that he can process what has happened, so he can cool down. Maybe that would be good for both of you.

Summer: Then why does it feel so final? Needles.

[ Sharon sighing ]

Sharon: Enough of cameron. What’s the rest of your day looking like? Are you going to see how sally’s doing?

Nick: I’m not sure she’s up for a visit after we spoke earlier, but I’m definitely going to stop by.

Sharon: I’m sure she could use all the support she can get.

Nick: Not that she’d admit it. She’s really struggling.

Sharon: So was adam. I wish they could share the loss of the baby together, share the love they had for that little girl. I just think it would go a long way in helping them heal.

Nick: Yeah, I don’t know. Sally blames adam 100%.

Sharon: And adam’s mad at himself and the world.

Nick: We both know how adam gets when he gets mad at himself, he tends to shine that onto the nearest target.

Sharon: Have you seen him?

Nick: Yeah, I saw him last night. Things got a little tense. I warned him that he needed to stay away from sally and just give her some time and space. Not that he listened the first time.

Sharon: He still loves her so much.

Nick: Yeah, but losing the baby? It was the only connection they had. Sally moved on a long time ago. But it doesn’t matter. Adam is going to do whatever he wants. Some people just don’t know how to fade into the woodwork.

Jack: You know that I adore you. I have since the moment I held you in my hands in that elevator when you announced to the world you were very much alive.

[ Summer chuckling ] That hasn’t changed. But I love my son very much and I am going to support whatever decision he makes.

Summer: I– I wouldn’t expect anything else.

[ Summer sighing ] I’ve ruined everything. And it’s not just our family that I’ve messed up.

Jack: Wait, I don’t understand what that means.

Summer: I mean, what’s going to happen to marchetti? Kyle and I can barely be in the same room. How are we gonna work together?

Jack: It’s not going to be easy. Personal differences have to take a back seat to what’s best for the company. That said, you are the driving creative force behind marchetti’s success. You are the brand. So if you and kyle can’t find a way to work together… I think kyle’s gonna have to be the one to step away.

Mariah: Separation. How did summer react?

Kyle: How do you think? She threw it back at me. Pretty much accused me of throwing her out on the street when all she did was try and help her mom.

Mariah: Very dramatic, that one. Are you having second thoughts?

Kyle: No, but I dread what’s ahead, but how can I build a life, a family, with someone who I can never trust again?

Mariah: I think you’re doing the right thing. For you and for harrison.

Kyle: Thanks. It means a lot.

Mariah: Is there anything else going on with you? Not that there needs to be anything else going on with you.

Kyle: I’m just putting one foot in front of the other. So why don’t you take that lukewarm coffee and those pastries back to tessa and give aria kiss for me?

Mariah: You know I’m just a phone call away.

Kyle: Mm-hmm. I know.

Mariah: And I want you to use it or I will hunt you down, I promise you that.

Audra: Hello.

Announcer: Next week on the young and the restless.

Victor: I’ve become aware that you and a certain member of my family have become acquainted. And I asked you to come here to give you a serious warning.

Summer: I guess there’s just one thing left to do. Harrison. Could you come down here for a minute?

Sharon: I have an idea. But you would have to get your hands dirty.

Nick: Whatever it takes.

Jack: Have I told you you are a terrific dancer?

[ Diane chuckling ]

Diane: Only when I’m following your lead.

Jack: This evening’s been perfect.

Diane: Yeah.

Jack: Almost.

Diane: Well, it’s a shame that our son feels so alienated from his wife that he needs to get a room here.

Jack: Well, hopefully, it’s just for one night. In the meantime, I have so enjoyed this celebration of your new position.

Diane: Jack, I have so much to be thankful for, all at once. I feel like the two of us can conquer the world.

Jack: We will. I promise, together, you and I are unstoppable.

[ Diane chuckling ]

Diane: Yeah.

[ Michael sharply exhaling ]

Lauren: Is something the matter?

Michael: No, no, no, no. It’s just, uh, I was setting the stage for our romantic rendezvous and I received an unexpected visitor.

[ Lauren chuckling ]

Lauren: Well, that explains why I had an extra hour to kill before I arrived.

Michael: Sorry about that.

Lauren: Well, who was it?

Michael: The not-so-late, great Phyllis Summers.

Lauren: Yes, and look, I really want to partake in all of this, but come here. First, I want to hear everything that you and Phyllis talked about.

[ Michael chuckling ]

Lauren: Have you figured out a way for her to come home without her life being wrecked?

Summer: Kyle. Kyle! [ Sighing ] Where is he?

[ Summer sighing ]

Kyle: We’re completely in sync. Just proof we were meant to be. And everything we went through in the past, breaking up, getting back together again, breaking up again.

Summer: Getting back together again.

Kyle: It’s just proof that once we finally made it permanent, we were destined to last forever.

[phone chimes]

Phyllis: (via text) Spoke with Michael. May finally see a way out of all this.

Summer: This is all your fault.

Kyle: Wow. That was–

Audra: Something we both needed.

Kyle: Apparently.

[ Kyle grunting ]

Audra: Hey.

Kyle: Um, hm.

Audra: Mm, everything good?

Kyle: Yeah. Yeah, definitely.

Audra: Listen, this was something really fun that happened. No more, no less. So, if you’re thinking about making, you know, a smooth escape, like, that’s cool with me. Like, I get it. No pressure from me.

Kyle: I don’t want to go home. From the very first touch,

[ Summer sighing ]

Nick: This a good time? I’ll take that as a yes.

Summer: Dad, how are you after everything that happened?

Nick: Oh. You mean with Cameron Kirsten? How’d you hear about that?

Summer: Faith told me when she was letting me know that she was headed back to Michigan. Oh, my god, it’s horrible. Look, I know that this might sound bad, but I’m glad that he’s dead.

Nick: That’s not bad at all. Cameron meant business. He was determined to take out as many of us as possible.

Summer: In a sewer? I–

Nick: It’s just like his mind. Sitting over in that cell, rotting away, obsessing about Sharon. I guess he thought this would bring things full circle.

Summer: Are Sharon and Faith really okay?

Nick: They’re doing the best they can considering the traumatic experience they went through.

Summer: It’s so scary. I mean, if that had happened to Harrison I’d–

Nick: Summer, listen, we’re dealing with it, all right? We’re all tough. We’re determined to get through it.

Summer: How’s everything else? You okay?

Nick: I don’t know if you heard this or not, but I’m taking some time away from Newman Enterprises. It’s not my call, but with everything that’s happened, maybe it’s for the best. Also, Sally lost the baby.

Summer: Dad, when?

Nick: The day Faith got kidnapped. Adam was with her. I didn’t even know about it until after it happened.

Summer: That is so awful. I– I know how much this baby meant to you.

Nick: Yeah, it’s a lot to deal with all at once.

Summer: How is Sally doing?

Nick: Not great.

Summer: I– I’m so sorry.

Nick: Thanks. So, I know you never would have called me over at this hour unless there was something wrong. What’s going on?

Summer: Oh, I don’t know, Dad. I– I can’t pile anything else onto you.

Nick: Hey, I’m your dad. Pile away.

Summer: No, seriously. It’s okay, let’s talk next week when all of this isn’t so fresh.

Nick: Summer, you’re anxious, and something’s going on, so talk to me.

Summer: I don’t even know where to start. God. [ sobbing ] I have messed up my marriage so bad.

Nick: How?

Summer: Kyle wants to separate. He asked me to move out.

Nick: I’m so sorry, Summer. I’m sorry. All right, I want you to talk to me, okay? Tell me everything.

[ Audra moaning ]

Michael: I laid out a scenario for what Phyllis could expect, legally speaking, if she were to surrender.

Lauren: With you representing her?

Michael: That would be the plan.

Lauren: Can you keep her out of prison?

[ Michael sighing ]

Michael: There are no guarantees.

Lauren: I knew you were gonna say that.

Michael: Look, her best shot is to come in from the cold and at least let me try.

Wait!

Lauren: I hope she makes the right choice because I really miss my friend.

Michael: Me too. You know, I’ve known Phyllis has been alive for a while, but seeing her in person…

Lauren: How did she seem? I mean, she’s been through so much.

Michael: That’s exactly what you said. She’s worried and afraid and hiding behind a big old wall of bravado.

Lauren: Hm. That’s our Phyllis.

Michael: It was incredible to see her, but at the same time, uh, it was heartbreaking.

Lauren: I wish I could go back in time and just talk her out of that insane scheme.

Michael: No, no, no, listen to me. Phyllis got herself into that jam, and I intend to get her out of it, but she’s gonna have to at least pay for some of her crimes. And her life will never be the same.

Lauren: Don’t be so sure. Diane played dead for many years. Came back and look at her life now.

[ Diane chuckling ]

Diane: Another toast? How many is that?

Jack: I’ve lost count.

[ Diane chuckling ]

Diane: That’s my favorite number.

Jack: To your resilience. No matter what life throws you, you never let it keep you down.

Diane: I’ll drink to that.

Jack: I mean that. I really do admire that you have your problems like anyone else, your insecurities, your worries, your frustrations. You never let it derail you. Not Ashley’s resistance and ugliness, not Phyllis eluding the law after the abominable things she did to you.

Diane: Well, one thing that does worry me is that Kyle came here to sleep to get even farther away from Summer, it– it hurts my heart.

Jack: Yeah, mine too.

Diane: Yeah. But still, you and I had some steep mountains to climb to get to this point and I– you know, I have to hope that things will work out for them, too.

Jack: I really believe they will. But they may have to learn the hard way about love and forgiveness.

Diane: You know, we’re lucky, Jack. One good thing about getting older is that we’ve been around long enough to know that struggle is just a part of life.

Jack: Thinking about the kids again?

Diane: Yeah. You know, you take the bad with the good and you cherish what you have when you have it. It’s a lesson I failed to learn ’til I had lost everything. Or I should say I threw it away with both hands, but I was– I was younger then, I– I made a lot of mistakes.

Jack: Didn’t we all?

Diane: Yeah. But having you back in my life, it, uh, it makes me want to be better. To– to be a better person. I mean, I’m so grateful for every moment that we have and I’m– I’m– I’m not taking any of it for granted.

Jack: I think luck, I think fate play a part in all of this. How lucky we are that life brought us back together when we could really be partners.

Diane: Yeah. I’ll try not to ruin things this time.

[ Diane chuckling ]

Jack: No, I think we are both walking into this marriage with our eyes wide open. You are not perfect. God knows I am not perfect–

Diane: Oh, hey, hey, hey, watch what you say about my fiancé. He’s pretty perfect. Okay, can you, um, can you allow me one moment of pettiness? I take great pride in knowing that Phyllis and Ashley are still stuck in the past. They’re still dwelling on old grievances. I actually feel sorry for them.

Jack: You know what? I don’t find that petty at all. I absolutely agree.

Kyle: You hungry? Maybe you want to order room service or go out.

Audra: I have to be honest with you. I really do have a huge day tomorrow. I’m taking the reins at Newman Media while, uh, Nate fills in for Nick.

Kyle: Hm.

Audra: So, I actually need you to make that smooth exit we talked about.

Kyle: Oh, you’re kicking me out. I feel so used.

Audra: Listen, I like pillow talk as much as the next girl, okay? Tonight, however–

Kyle: Your mind is on work.

Audra: Yes.

Kyle: I get it.

Audra: Look, if I misled you in any way, I–

Kyle: No, no, not at all. You’ve been very upfront about everything. I appreciate the honesty. It was fantastic.

Audra: Well, I’m glad you feel that way.

Kyle: So, I suppose I should get dressed.

Audra: Hm. You can do that. After we shower.

Kyle: Ooh, I think that’s one hell of a great idea.

Nick: I mean, I’m sorry, you are struggling with this. I cannot believe your mother faked her own death and has put you and Daniel through this. You don’t deserve it. Where is she now?

Summer: I don’t know. She won’t say. She’s trying to protect me and Daniel, and herself.

Nick: Yeah, probably more herself.

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: She did offer to turn herself in if it would save my marriage, but– but I couldn’t let her do that. And it wouldn’t have helped anyway. We need to keep searching for a way for her to come home without being arrested for Stark’s murder. Dad, what are you thinking?

Nick: I– I mean, what am I thinking? Uh, I’m– I’m grateful that your mother’s still alive.

Summer: Only now you could kill her?

Nick: My feelings are complicated. I cannot understand why she’s making you feel responsible for solving problems that she created.

Summer: What else is new? Though, if I’m being fair, and if we’re being fair to her, a lot of this is Stark’s fault. And not to mention the fact that Diane faked her death and tried to pin it on other people and it never caught up to her, so I know mom’s logic was really, really screwy, but I do see that there was some justice to it.

Nick: Sweetheart, I know you love your mother, but we’re also talking about Kyle’s mother.

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: You’re right. I tried to protect my mom. And it turns out it might have cost me my marriage.

Lauren: How many times have we said that Phyllis is her own worst enemy?

Michael: Too many to count.

Lauren: I mean, since the day we met her, it has been one ghastly mistake after another.

Michael: If we were ever asked to print out a timeline of all her misdeeds, our printer would explode.

[ Lauren laughing ]

Lauren: Isn’t that the truth? And yet, god help me, I adore her.

[ Lauren chuckling ]

Michael: Yeah. Likewise.

Lauren: What do you think it would take for Phyllis to turn over a new leaf, huh?

Summer: When we thought Mom was dead, I– I couldn’t even stand to be in the same room as Kyle. He kept on shielding Diane and he– he wouldn’t even accept the possibility that his mom had murdered mine. And– and it made me so angry. But then suddenly there was mom. And she had killed Stark, and she was asking me not to tell anyone that she was alive.

Nick: Including Kyle.

Summer: Especially Kyle. Because of course he would have gone straight to the police. And– and Mom needed time to be able to prove that it was self-defense. And I went along with it. I froze Kyle out to protect mom, even though it meant prolonging his mom’s suffering. And I– I knew that it was horrible even when I was doing it. But I just– I couldn’t risk anybody finding out the truth before she’d come up with a plausible defense.

Nick: And the longer this dragged on, the more distance it created between you and Kyle.

Summer: [ Sighing ] Dad, it was such a disaster. Kyle was so upset that Diane was in jail, and there I was, and I had information that could have gotten her out and I didn’t do that. I put Mom first. I put her ahead of Kyle’s feelings. Ahead of our marriage, and… ahead of what I knew was right. But I had convinced myself that– that I didn’t have a choice, that I– I had to do what I did. He won’t even look at me now and I– I don’t know what to do. God. [ Sobbing ] How do I fix this?

Nick: Oh, my god. [ Sighing ] Your mother, um… she put you in a terrible position, Summer. All right? Now, I have to believe that Kyle’s eventually gonna see that. He loves you. He’s gonna see what this is doing to you and how much you regret hurting him.

Summer: I– I’d like to think that. That Kyle’s just reacting right now, but… we have such a long history. And it’s taken us a long time to build up this trust. And I destroyed it.

Kyle: I’m glad we ran into each other.

Audra: Mm-hmm. So am I. I had a fabulous time and I’m sure I’m gonna have a great night’s sleep. And I’m sure you will, too.

Kyle: No doubt.

Audra: If this happens again, great. If not, I had a sensational time.

Kyle: Agreed. Good night, Audra.

Audra: Good night.

[ Audra sighing ]

Jack: Hey.

Kyle: Hey. Uh, what– what are you doing here?

Jack: Oh, well, we’re just headed home after a lovely evening.

Diane: What about you?

Jack: We don’t mean to pry. We saw you headed upstairs earlier and, uh, assumed that you needed a room because of the situation with Summer.

Kyle: I– I needed to get out of the way from the tension in the house.

Diane: A nice hot shower to clear your head.

Kyle: Uh, yeah. Yeah. It, um, it helped, but I realized staying away from the house isn’t going to solve anything. I want to be near Harrison when he wakes up.

Jack: Everyone needs to get away sometimes.

Michael: What would it take to rehabilitate Phyllis?

[ Lauren laughing ]

Lauren: Can people change that much?

Michael: Hmm. I did. Prison helped.

Lauren: Yeah, but with Phyllis, she’s been there, done that. I mean, even hitting rock bottom didn’t exactly have an effect on her.

Michael: Well, maybe that’s the answer, in the end. You know, Phyllis is Phyllis. Maybe there’s no saving the woman.

Lauren: You don’t believe that. And neither do I. Of course, people can evolve.

Michael: People, yes. But Phyllis…

Lauren: Well… [ Lauren clicking her tongue ] …If she wanted something badly enough, maybe it’s just finding the right motivation.

Nick: Summer, I understand why you’re worried this rift between you and Kyle is permanent, but I really believe you can get through it if it’s something you both want.

Summer: That’s the thing. He’s so mad at me that I– I don’t think that Kyle wants to fix this. This might really be the end for us.

Nick: I wish I had the, uh, just the right words that would help you feel more hopeful.

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: It’s okay. God, my stomach is in knots. My brain keeps telling me to fight for my family, but I just feel so lost right now.

Nick: I’m sorry Phyllis put this in motion. She was asking far too much of you.

Summer: Right, but I could have said no. And I did. I told her that it was horrible of her to put me in this position. All because she hates Diane, I–

Nick: And what did she say to that?

Summer: That I was right to resent her. That she felt awful. But she couldn’t handle being locked up and I couldn’t handle her going on the run. It would have been like she died all over again.

Nick: I wish you’d come to me sooner so I could help.

Summer: Yeah, I really wish that I had too, but once I confided in Daniel and he started telling everybody, it just– it unraveled so quickly. [ Summer sighing ] I know that Mom is Stark’s victim… but I cannot help but hold her responsible for this mess.

Nick: As well you should.

Summer: You know, I really wish that I could just be happy that Mom was alive. I really do. But everything with Kyle is so bad and it’s just getting worse and it’s all because she has this grudge against Diane. I mean, I am so stupid. I should’ve never agreed to keep this secret. It’s come with too high of a price.

Nick: Look, I know you love your mother, but there’s always a trade-off with her.  [ Nick sighing ] I mean, she is a cyclone. She mows down everything in her path.

Summer: Including my marriage, apparently. I– I seriously don’t know if Kyle’s ever gonna forgive me or if this separation is gonna turn into a divorce. [ Summer sighing ] And the worst part is after all of this– after all of this, we don’t– we don’t even have a way to bring Mom home without her being arrested for Stark’s murder. So I just– I feel like I’ve already lost them both. God. I’m just scared that no matter how much I try, there’s– there’s really not a way for me to make this right. [ Summer sighing ]

[ Michael laughing ]

Michael: I love your optimism. It’s one of my favorite traits of yours.

Lauren: And I am banking on your problem-solving abilities.

Michael: You make me sound so shady.

Lauren: Well…

Michael: All right, fine, fine, I have a gift.

Lauren: You do. You are a brilliant attorney. You come up with solutions that no one else can even think of, even if they’re not always…

Michael: Uh-huh, according to guidelines.

Lauren: Hmm. You are remembered by the rules that you break.

Michael: Who said that?

Lauren: MacArthur. And he should know.  And I have no doubt that you’re going to help Phyllis.

Michael: No, I–I intend to as long as she doesn’t disappear on me, but she’s gonna have to meet me halfway.

Lauren: And what does that look like?

Michael: Phyllis is gonna have to temper her expectations. Even if–if I get rid of the murder rap,  she’s still facing a boatload of charges. And there are gonna be repercussions.  It’s absurd to think otherwise.

Lauren: Well, if anyone, anyone can get through to her,  it’s you.  I have faith.

Michael: Oh. Oh, I see what you’re doing. You make it sound like flattery, but that’s a challenge.

Lauren: [ Laughing] Well, then consider the gauntlet thrown. You know what? Forget about that.  Forget about Phyllis, forget about everything, except the two of us in our own private oasis.  I’m so proud of you. And I love you so much. And I cannot wait for us to start a romantic evening. [ Chuckling]

Michael: More?

Lauren: No.

Diane:  I’m glad that you were able to realize that you need to put Harrison first.

Jack: And I second that.

Diane: Yeah. And Kyle, I am– I am so sorry for my lapse in judgment earlier.  I shouldn’t have exaggerated how upset he was. I just– I just wanted to bring you and Summer closer together, and I know it wasn’t my place, and I shouldn’t have done it. And I promise you I will never do it again.

Kyle: Mom, I don’t want to discuss this right now.  See you at the house.

Jack: He seem a little off to you?

Diane: Off how?

Jack:  I don’t know, out of sorts, a little nervous.

Diane: He seems exhausted, but he is under a lot of stress, Jack.

Jack: Yeah, you’re right. I’m making too much of it.

Diane: Yeah, I just hate seeing him like this. I wish there was something I could do to help, but apparently what I did made things worse.

Jack: I think our son had a good idea that we should table all of this right now. Besides, I want to leave on a high from our incredible evening together.

Diane: Okay. That works.

Audra: “Kyle Abbott named CEO of Marchetti as Jabot acquires legendary Italian couturier.” Hmm. Oh, nice pic.

Nick: Feel better?

Summer: No. [ Sighing ] Okay, a little. Look, don’t laugh, but the only other person that I’ve even been able to talk about any of this with is… Diane.

Nick: Not laughing.

Summer: She even went to Kyle and tried to reason with him, but it definitely did not work.

Nick: [ Clicks tongue] Summer, this is one of those times where you’re just gonna have to be really, really patient.  You know, let things play out.  Things are gonna have to get worse before they get better, I bet.  But you gotta give Kyle some space, more space than you’re probably comfortable with, but when he’s ready, he’ll come to you to talk.

Summer: And I’ll listen this time.  I’ve got this really bad habit of trying to argue my point and prove that I’m right instead of doing the whole give-and-take thing. I don’t know where I got that from.

Nick: Yeah, I don’t know. It’s a mystery.

Summer: [ Chuckling ] Look… Uh, I’m sorry that I didn’t come to you sooner.  Like you said, if I had, maybe I wouldn’t even be in this fix, but I could be in a whole different fix entirely. One that wouldn’t be so destructive. [ Chuckling]

Nick: [ Clicks tongue] I get it.  Your mom can be very convincing. And she’s not above really slathering on the guilt, especially when it suits her.  But that’s why I think eventually Kyle’s gonna  come around because he understands  how your mom likes to manipulate everyone.

Summer: Don’t we all?

Nick: As far as coming to me sooner, don’t worry about it. With all the turmoil you’ve been going through,  I get it.

Summer: I wish that Kyle could hear you say that.

Nick: Well, I could talk to Kyle if you want, you know. Just the two of us.  It may not work, but it might be worth a shot.

Michael: [ Laughing and sighing]

Audra: [Sighing]

[ phone chimes ]

Nate: (via text) Ready for tomorrow? Our worlds are about to change.

Audra: Maybe mine already has.

Diane: [Laughing]

Jack: Nick.

Nick: Jack, Diane.

Diane: Ah, good to see you, Nick.

Nick: You, too.

Summer: Do you guys know where Kyle is? Ha– have you seen him?

Jack: Actually, we just saw him at the club.  He’s on his way here now.

Summer: Oh, good. Good.

Nick: All right, I’m gonna take off. If you need me, you call me. I don’t care how late it is, okay?

Summer: Thank you, Dad, I will.

Nick: All right. Good night, guys.

Jack and Diane: Good night.

Jack: If there’s anything we can do to help, anything at all?

Summer: It’s okay.

Diane: Um, you want us to wait up with you until Kyle gets here?

Summer: No, you guys go ahead.

Diane: All right, good night.

Jack: Get some rest.

Summer: Thanks. [ Sighing]

[ Door slams shut]

Summer: Hi.

Jack: I am CEO of jabot. This is my decision to make.

Billy: Right, and I really wish that you would have talked to your co-ceo before making this decision, jack. But what I’m really worried about is that you don’t seem to have any ethical obligation to warning your family before you hire your fiancé into a c-suite position.

Jack: Diane, why don’t you head to the club and get us a table? And I don’t need you to be subjected to billy’s overreaction or anything else he might regret saying. It won’t take long.

Diane: No problem.

Billy: I suggest you grab an appetizer, diane. This might take longer than jack thinks.

[ Diane scoffing ]

[ Door shutting ] Go ahead, jack. Explain yourself and I really hope this is good.

**************************

Ashley: Well, hi. Aren’t you out past your bedtime?

[ Diane scoffing ]

Diane: I’m meeting jack here for dinner.

Ashley: Special occasion? I mean, you just kind of look like you put in a little bit more effort. Oh, wait, I know. I read that announcement. You are jabot’s new chief talent officer.

Diane: So you heard the news.

Ashley: Oh, yeah. Read it online, where I just love to get all the family company updates. You must be thrilled. Everything’s coming together for you, huh, diane?

Adam: Sharon, it’s me.

Sharon: Oh, it’s Adam. Just a minute! Um, I better go. Okay, I will tell him that just for you. Call soon. Love you too. Bye.

Adam: I startled you. I’m– I’m sorry.

Sharon: What kind of jerk shows up at a crime victim’s house this late at night without calling first?

*****************

Michael: She’s gonna be here any minute and I don’t want her thinking that I– I scrimped on all of the romance, so, no. What I need is over the top. Like rocky road ice cream to represent the past, yeah? And then, uh– then, uh– the– some of the– no, all the strawberries, have them dipped in every type of chocolate that you have. And that will illustrate the– the– the sweetness to come. Yes, and, uh– and– and your best wine. And then, whatever– whatever else you can think of. Just– I want– I want everything, I want over the top, all right? Yes. You can do this for me. You can. All right. Thank you.

[ Knocking on door ] Ah, uh… door is open!

[ Michael sighing ]

[ Door clicks open ] Boy. Somebody better do something about the heat in here. It’s hot and getting hotter. Yeah. Does somebody need to be held in a– the hell! Phyllis. (Wheezing)

Transcript provided by Suzanne

Victor: Whatever you’re reading must be very engrossing.

Victoria: [ Sighing ] Daddy, you scared me. What are you doing here so late? Is everything okay?

Victor: That depends, my dear. We have some unfinished business. And this time, you will not walk out on me.

Audra: If I knew I was going to have a few cocktails, I would have had a burger for dinner instead of a salad.

Kyle: Unfortunately, the best cheeseburger spot in town is already closed.

Audra: Oh, then it can’t be the best because that would be the one you can get when you’re starving at midnight.

Kyle: Okay, fair enough, but if you want the best culinary experience, you will try my recommendation during normal business hours.

Audra: Well, are you gonna tell me where it is, or do I just have to eat my way through all of the burger joints in genoa city?

Kyle: How about one more round? And then I’ll reveal the location.

[ Audra sighing ]

Audra: Are you bribing me?

Kyle: Just enjoying your company.

Audra: I don’t know. Could it really be that good?

Kyle: Hmm. Come here.

Audra: Oh, yeah?

Kyle: Mm-hmm. It’s better then you can imagine.

Audra: Oh. Okay. But on one condition.

[ Kyle inhaling ]

Kyle: I don’t know if I should risk bargaining with, uh, an admitted ambitious, “ultra-achiever” like yourself. Seems like I won’t have the upper hand.

Audra: I’m not that threatening.

Kyle: Okay. Okay. What are your terms?

Audra: I buy the next round and you indulge my choice of conversation.

Kyle: What’s your topic?

Audra: It’s time to get a little more personal.

Ashley: “Jabot announces diane jenkins as it’s new chief talent officer.” Oh, my god. You did it, jackie. You really did it.

Diane: I am ready for a date with my handsome fiancé.

Jack: Wow, you look absolutely gorgeous, but then you’re stunning when you wake up.

[ Diane laughing ]

Diane: Your ability to say that with a straight face is one of the many things I love about you.

Jack: No, I can say that because it’s true.

Diane: Your charm is another one of those things.

Jack: I cannot wait to toast your new position.

Diane: I can’t believe it’s really happening.

Jack: Oh, believe it. I just saw it online.

Diane: Really? I’m surprised we haven’t heard ashley scream.

Jack: Well, ashley’s out. With any luck, we will not see her today.

[ Doorbell ringing ] Billy. Uh, is something wrong?

Billy: Yeah, there’s something wrong, jack. What the hell is going on with this press release about diane’s new job and why is it the first time I’m hearing about it online? Did you approve this? Did you consult with anyone before giving her this promotion?

Trelegy for copd.

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

[ Victoria sighing ]

Victoria: All right, well, if the topic is nick’s leave of absence, then, um, I’m having a drink and I assume that you’ll join me.

Victor: Your mother and i were concerned about your reaction during our earlier conversation.

Victoria: You mean because I walked out on you?

Victor: Yes. We seem to have struck a nerve.

Victoria: [ Sighing ] Daddy, I was in the middle of handling other business issues when you and mom started questioning my decisions.

Victor: Your unilateral decision to replace your brother and put nate in this position. It’s not just business.Other d i have questions about that.

Victoria: Do you know how frustrating it is? Having my executive moves scrutinized when I have so much else on my plate.

Victor: And yet you said that if I didn’t like your decision, I could let you go.

Victoria: Daddy, I just said that in the heat of the moment. I don’t sincerely want you to fire me from the company.

Victor: So then I assume you have cooled off. So, let’s talk.

Victoria: Have you or mom considered that maybe this has hit me emotionally as well? Thinking about my sweet little niece being kidnapped and having explosives s– strapped to her body. I mean, I can only imagine how traumatizing this must have been for nicholas. That’s why I am insisting that he take some time off to recover from this.

Victor: But sweetheart, your brother can make that decision on his own. You don’t have to make it for him.

Victoria: Look, I’m sorry if this decision that I’ve made has upset you. I didn’t mean for that to happen, but dad, he’s been through hell. And as much as I don’t want to even talk about it, you have to remember what happened with ashland.

Victor: It’s on the forefront of my mind.

Victoria: Well, then you will remember that nick’s emotional reaction to killing him crept up on him slowly. He made it seem like it didn’t affect him at all, but it did. It affected him a lot. And I’m just trying to give him a little time to deal with the fallout from all of that without having to feel like he has to hide what he’s going through to protect his job. Look. [ Sighing ] Nick will come back when he is ready and strong and centered.

Victor: How did he react to your decision?

Victoria: I haven’t heard from him since I’ve told him, but I assume and hope that he’s made the decision to use the time well.

[ Victor sighing ]

Victor: All right. Now, let’s talk about nate hastings.

Jack: I had the announcement drafted and sent out by our pr team myself.

Billy: Well, that’s one less cause of alarm that I could check off the list because for a second there, I thought maybe somebody hacked into our system for the sole purpose of causing corporate upheaval.

Jack: It’s a little bit dramatic, don’t you think?

Billy: Not as dramatic as the other possibility. That you just detonated a bomb that is going to cause a family war.

Diane: Billy, I can assure you, you don’t need to feel threatened by that.

Billy: Is that right, diane? Look, there are lines being crossed right now. I hope you realize that we just had a family meeting about it. This is the exact thing traci just warned us against.

Kyle: Thank you. I was enjoying our non-personal conversation. Why ruin a good thing?

Audra: Don’t worry. I’m not gonna grill you about whatever turmoil you’re in right now.

Kyle: Is it that obvious?

Audra: Well, I mean, I just– you know, I assume that when someone so invested in keeping the conversation light, it’s because they’re avoiding some darker feelings. That, and our growing bar tab.

Kyle: Hmm. Perceptive. So why not indulge me in a little more light chit chat?

Audra: Hmm. Look, I want to be a friendly ear, but I can only talk about cheeseburgers for so long.

[ Kyle laughing ] Besides, you got me to open up about my life in genoa city when we first had drinks, so I think it’s only fair that I’m allowed to hear a little bit more about the man underneath that very freshly pressed suit.

Kyle: Whoo, whoo, whoo. Are you calling me uptight?

Audra: No, I just, you know, noted that you’re a man who continues to present a well-kept facade to the world while claiming his personal life is falling apart. You’re the one who used the word uptight.

Kyle: Well, I am the ceo of marchetti. Appearances matter.

Audra: And you get an a+ in that category. You know, I wonder what your grade will be in “fun-loving.”

Kyle: Well, with time and responsibility comes structure and discipline.

Audra: Uh, that’s a solid c-.

[ Both laughing ]

Kyle: If you knew my past, you’d give me a higher score.

Audra: Are you asking me to grade you on a curve?

Kyle: I’m just saying I partied with the best of them.

Audra: Oh, I don’t know. I’m going to need some details. Are we talking broke into the family liquor cabinet for a few sips of scotch and stayed out a few minutes past curfew? Because if that’s all you’ve got, no.

Kyle: Ooh, hey, now. I can do better than that.

Audra: Okay.

Kyle: Try raided the liquor cabinet of the richest guy in new york city.

Audra: Uh-huh.

Kyle: And had an affair with his wife.”

Audra: Kyle abbott. I’m shocked. Hm. There might be hope for you after all.

Kyle: There you go. Moderate to severe eczema

[ Victoria sighing ]

Victoria: There is nothing to discuss about nate.

Victor: I disagree. You never answered the question your mother and I had. About whether nate’s influenced your decision to have nicholas take a leave for absence.

Victoria: He absolutely did not. It was my call to insist that nick take a step away and my decision to have nate step in. As a matter of fact, he challenged me on it.

Victor: [ Scoffing ] Really?

Victoria: Why would you have an issue with nate picking up the slack? I don’t see why you would oppose it. You have always showed an interest in his new career and you’ve praised his work at newman media.

Victor: We’re talking about two different issues. Your brother doesn’t trust him.

Victoria: That’s because he’s wary of what happened at chancellor-winters and with elena. And I understand his concern. I do. But I’m the one who’s working with nate.

Victor: Don’t try to pull the wool over my eyes. I’ve been around for too long. You don’t just work with nate. You have a personal relationship with him. How the hell can that not influence your judgment in business?

Victoria: Daddy, nate is an asset to this company and I trust him completely. Can’t you trust me?

[ Victor sighing ]

Jack: I understand you feel left out of this decision to promote diane to the new position.

Billy: No, jack, let me be clear, this is not about me being left out of the loop. I don’t think you realize how certain people are going to see this. It’s not going to be good.

Jack: By certain people, I assume you mean ashley.

Billy: Yes, ashley, abby, anyone else on the board. Anyone else that works for jabot, jack. I mean, you handed your fiancé an executive position without going through the proper protocol.

Jack: I am aware of that. I made a judgment call and I stand by it. I didn’t want to hear endless counter arguments from ashley and you and everyone else. I’ve heard enough badmouthing of diane to last me a lifetime.

Billy: So your solution to that is to circumvent us? To go behind our back.

Jack: You’re making it sound a lot more devious than it was.

Billy: No, jack, you don’t understand how incendiary this move is. You basically backed us into a corner. You realize that? We either go along with diane’s promotion or we don’t and we cause public outcry, which in turn weakens the company. We go along with your whim or we damage the boat.

Jack: Hold on. This is not a whim. I am ceo of jabot. This is well within my power as it was to bring you on board as my co-ceo, by the way. I don’t remember posting that job or interviewing other candidates. Why is that okay for you and not for diane?

Billy: Because I’m an abbott, jack.

Jack: And she’s about to be one. Everybody ought to get used to that. Diane and I are getting married. Diane is being promoted. End of story.

Billy: No, it’s not the end of story. What you just did guarantees that it does not end here.

Jack: It does if I say it does.

Billy: You know, this is exactly what ashley said was going to happen and I thought she was overreacting. I said, “there’s no way that jack is going to do something so brash with diane.” Jack, you have launched a missile directly at ashley and you were about to cause all-out war for jabot.

Ashley: Oh, yeah, everything’s in place. I’m definitely pulling the trigger. Just a few details I want to discuss with you. Okay, I’ll text you later. Bye.

Diane: Hello, ashley.

Audra: An affair with a married woman.

Kyle: Mm-hmm.

Audra: I’m assuming since you’re telling me, the husband found out.

Kyle: You know, it’s common knowledge now since it resulted in my son, harrison, but something tells me you already knew that.

Audra: Um, look, I admit I did a little internet deep dive on you since our last drink.

Kyle: Mm-hmm.

Audra: But I didn’t know a whole lot about you other than the fact that you’re married to my ex’s sister. Um, whoops, I veered into the too personal, didn’t I?

[ Laughing ] Look, okay, I’ll make it up to you by topping your, uh, liquor cabinet sex story with… sex in a helicopter.

Kyle: Whoa, whoa. I did not see that coming. That’s impressive.

Audra: Mm-hmm.

Kyle: But engaging with the pilot seems a little dangerous.

Audra: Well, kyle, I’m not afraid of a little danger.

Kyle: Mm-hmm. But you lived to tell the tale, so I’m guessing it was with a passenger.

Audra: Hm. Handsome and smart.

[ Both chuckling ] You know, when we first had drinks, you pegged me as an overachiever.

Kyle: Mm-hmm.

Audra: But my achievements are not confined to the boardroom. I got a few moves.

Kyle: I bet you do. How about you show me some? Come on.

Audra: All right.

Kyle: I clearly need a little extra credit in the “fun-loving” category.

Audra: Yeah. Anything to help.

[ Both chuckling ] Oh. My late father-in-law lit up a room,

Victoria: When you made me ceo of newman enterprises, you put your trust in me to run the family company. I know that trust was challenged after what happened with ashland, but I had felt that we’d gotten past that. I hope you still trust me, dad. Even if you don’t agree with every decision that I make.

Nate: Is it late enough for a sample of that new bourbon I brought you? Oh, victor. Sorry if I’m interrupting. I didn’t realize you were here.

Victor: That’s all right, nate.

Nate: Victoria and i have been working late on a new project for the real estate division.

Victoria: And nate must have something pressing to talk with me about. Daddy, I’m sure you want to head back to the ranch, don’t you?

Victor: I’m not going anywhere, sweetheart. So, why don’t you give nate and me a moment alone, all right?

Victoria: Um, I do need to check in with the technology team, but I’ll be right back.

Victor: Nate, would you kindly close the door? And now, why don’t you pour yourself a glass of that bourbon?

Nate: Before I do, victor, I want to assure you that I am up for this challenge. Victoria’s asked me to step in for nick while he’s out and I am happy to do so. I intend to impress not just victoria, but you, nikki, and nick, too.

Jack: There will be no war at jabot.

Billy: That is wishful thinking, jack. Ashley is hell-bent on turning the rest of jabot against diane. She’s not gonna stop trying to recruit board members. And what you just did was give her ammunition to prove that diane is infiltrating jabot at a very high level.

Jack: You let me handle ashley.

Billy: Jack, you cannot defend this move. I mean, she’s not qualified.

Jack: I am not going to defend diane’s curriculum vitae to anyone.

Billy: You’re gonna have to come up with a motive, okay? You’re gonna have to figure this out because tucker is coming. He’s got something going on with ashley, there’s no doubt about that. And he has got a lot more experience than diane does.

Jack: I’m not going to worry about tucker right now. He’s on the outside, we’re on the inside.

Billy: Until they get married and they do the exact same thing you just did!

Jack: This is a hypothetical, billy. How about now? Right now, as my co-ceo, do you have my back?

Billy: So, now you want my–

Jack: And diane’s?

Billy: It is very important for you to know that I do not approve of these methods.

Jack: Message received.

Billy: Because you are my brother and because I am co-ceo of this company, yeah. I have your back.

Jack: Thank you. And diane?

Billy: I will say yes until she gives me a reason to say no.

Diane: As a matter of fact, my life feels very much untracked these days. No complaints, although, I’m sure that you will point out a few things that I should be concerned about.

Ashley: No. None that I can tell. Boy, this must be a dream job for you. Working side by side with jack, planning a wedding. You are going to be one busy girl.

Diane: Funny, I would have thought you’d be more upset by the announcement.

Ashley: Oh, well, let’s be real. I’m not thrilled. But don’t worry, I’m not going to throw an embarrassing tantrum. Actually, my life is taking me in a different direction.

Diane: Oh, really? Really? What direction is that? East perhaps? Maybe paris with tucker?

Ashley: [ Laughing ] No. No, that’s funny. Nope. Nope. Nope. No travel plans.

Diane: Then what?

Ashley: You know, it’s a surprise, you know? You’ll find out soon enough.

Diane: Oh, so this is some new ploy of yours.

Ashley: You’re so paranoid. I think all I’ve done is congratulate you.

Diane: Yes, and that’s why I’m so suspicious.

Ashley: Well, I have to admit, I do get a kick out of being able to get under your skin. Is that bad?

Kyle: It’s getting late. I need to head home.

Audra: Uh… right, um, me– me too. I have a big day tomorrow.

[ Clearing throat ] Big things are happening at work.

Kyle: Ah, yeah. I didn’t even ask you about how things are in newman.

Audra: Oh, it’s all good. Uh, this was a nice distraction. Mm-hmm.

Kyle: For me too. You took my mind off of… things.

Audra: Things. Yeah. Well, I’m happy to help. I– I’ll walk you out, yeah? Oh, you’re not– you’re not driving, are you?

Kyle: No, no. I’ll– I’ll get a cab.

Audra: Oh, good. Lucky me, I don’t have to drive or wait for a taxi. Living upstairs has its perks. My a1c was up here; now, it’s down with rybelsus.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Nate: I take it from your silence, you have similar feelings to nick about victoria asking me to step in. That I’m after his job. I am fully aware that helping out at newman is a temporary thing. As soon as nick is ready to return, I will gladly be back at newman media.

Victor: Well… if you’re truly acting in the interest of our company, then I have even more respect for you.

Nate: I am. I promise. There is no power grab going on. What I tried to do at chancellor-winters, I fully regret. I have no intentions of making a mistake like that ever again.

Victor: If you do, you know I’ll find out. And then… I’ll be your enemy. I don’t wish that on anyone. Are we clear?

Jack: Sorry, I’m late. Uh, everything all right?

Diane: Oh, everything’s just fine. Oh, look, I think our table’s ready.

Ashley: I’ll leave you to it.

Diane: Yeah.

Jack: Given billy’s reaction, I thought maybe, I was walking into a battle.

Diane: No, I was braced for the same, but thank you. Ashley was surprisingly civil.

Jack: No bitter tirade? Well, maybe, we got lucky and she hasn’t read the press release yet.

Diane: Well, that’s what’s so surprising. She has read it, but she had no vitriolic response whatsoever, just her usual tired sarcasm.

Jack: Why does that make me more nervous?

Diane: Yeah, she did kind of hint that she had some new plan going on.

Jack: Any idea what?

Diane: No, she was kind of cagey about it. You know, maybe, she’s just bluffing, trying to save face.

Jack: Well, I don’t think so. According to billy, she’s still making her backdoor efforts to bring the board onto her side.

Diane: What if the board isn’t behind my new position?

Jack: That will not be an issue if she does not have a majority yet. There will be no coup.

Diane: That’s good. So, how did things go with billy? I hope the conversation didn’t get ugly. Or should I say uglier.

Jack: I’m sorry you had to hear any of that. Yeah, it got a– a little tense. Billy warned me that I am just fueling ashley’s anger and her conspiracy theory she’s trying to spread about us. But he did not threaten to go to her side. No, he’s still behind us for now.

Diane: Then, we need to do whatever we can to keep it that way.

Kyle: Thanks again for distracting me tonight.

Audra: Oh, uh, it wasn’t a chore, um I enjoyed, you know, hearing about your bad boy adventures in new york.

Kyle: I’m sure you have more stories to tell.

Audra: Oh, yeah, I do.

[ Audra laughing ] You know, I think we both had a wild streak when we were younger.

Kyle: Wow, I haven’t always been this well-pressed.

Audra: Oh, yeah?

Kyle: Mm-hmm.

Audra: I wonder if there’s any of that bad boy left in you.

Kyle: Oh, I’m sure he’s in here somewhere. I’ve had him bottled up for a while.

Audra: Yeah, I’m sure he’s buried in there pretty deep.

Kyle: What makes you say that?

Audra: Well, the fact that your tie is still perfectly knotted, you know, after a night of cocktails and dancing.

[ Kyle grunting ]

Kyle: One loosened tie and one unbuttoned… top button.

Audra: It’s better. Uh, you know, maybe, that– that that boy is still in there after all.

[ Audra chuckling ] Even when I was with the people I love,

Nate: You’re warning is crystal clear. And I know you don’t make idle threats. I promise my intentions are pure, and not just because I care about protecting my job here. I care about victoria outside of our work relationship. I’m sure you have some concerns there as well.

Victor: You bet.

Nate: But like I told victoria, I want her to be able to lean on me personally as well as professionally, and I wouldn’t do anything to jeopardize that.

Victor: That’s good to hear.

Nate: I have nothing but admiration and respect for you and victoria and nick. I’m sad nick doesn’t feel he can trust me.

Victor: You used to be friends.

Nate: Yeah, he said, uh, the only way to win back their trust was to refuse the interim coo position.

Victor: Mm-hmm. And yet, you jumped at the position.

Nate: I didn’t decide this lightly. I– I carefully considered nick’s request… but in the end, I didn’t think it was fair to victoria.

Victor: I see.

Nate: She believes in me, victor. She thinks I can be useful during this time, and she is ceo of newman. So, I’ll have to live with nick’s anger and distrust of me until I can find some other way to win him over. And I suspect, you would have done the same if you were in my shoes, just starting out.

Victor: You’re probably right about that.

Victoria: Well, would you listen to that? Daddy agreeing with you. I hope that means that nate has eased all of your doubts.

Ashley: What are you doing here all alone? Is that pie?

Billy: It is pie. I came by to see jack, and of course, went into the kitchen to say hi to mrs. Martinez–

Ashley: And she forced you to have pie.

Billy: Yes, she did.

Ashley: It’s good.

Billy: She told me to take a piece home, but I didn’t make it very far.

Ashley: I can see.

Billy: I was hoping to run into you.

[ Billy sighing ] So? What’s going on?

[ Ashley scoffing ]

Ashley: Yeah, don’t be coy. I saw the press release. I’m surprised, but not shocked. Did you write it?

Billy: No. Of course, I didn’T. I was just as shocked as you were

Ashley: I bet. Considering you so vehemently dismissed the concerns I had about this very real possibility.

Billy: Yeah, I was wrong.

Ashley: Uh-huh.

Billy: I’m sure it sent you into a tizzy. Glad you had a little bit of time to cool down.

Ashley: I’m tizzy-free.

Billy: Right.

Ashley: I am. I gave up on the war, billy. It’s too exhausting. I should have listened to you from the very beginning.

Billy: I don’t believe you. What do you got going on?

Jack: So, what do you want to eat?

Diane: Uh, you know what? I don’t care, you pick for me.

Jack: Since when do you not care what you order?

Diane: Since I am too distracted by ashley’s “new leaf.” I don’t buy it for a second.

Jack: I’m going to order a steak for me. And how about a caesar salad for you?

Diane: Jack. Jack, this is important. We need to protect jabot. If billy said that ashley has already talked to abby and traci, then we need to talk to the non-family members of the board. In fact, you know them better than I do, so you should be the one that talks to them without me, so I don’t exacerbate the situation. And you should set those meetings for tomorrow morning. You need to get ahead of any questions or criticisms about how you announce my new position.

Jack: I don’t need to defend myself or you to anyone.

Diane: Well, of course, you don’t, you don’T. But we need to nip any of this in the bud. You know there’s going to be gossip. And– and how will this affect kyle and summer? I don’t want them pooled into some sort of corporate family feud. That’s not going to do their marriage any favors, especially if kyle ends up defending me and then summer feels threatened by my new position.

Jack: I got an idea.

Diane: Well, good, because I am all out of ideas for how to help them. You know, the last few I’ve tried really haven’t worked. So, what is it?

Jack: So, let’s not talk about any of our troubles for the rest of the evening.

Diane: And how will that help them?

Jack: It won’t help them, but I’ll get to have a nice, quiet, romantic time with my beautiful fiancée talking about our wedding and our honeymoon and how nice it is to just sit here, and look at each other and be so in love.

Diane: Jack, you deserve that and more. You know, these last few months have been really hard on you. And you’ve done everything for me. So, yes, I think that’s a wonderful idea.

[ Jack chuckling ]

Kyle: Well, I should get that cab.

Audra: Hmm, yeah, I should, um… probably go take a shower and get into bed.

Kyle: Sounds like a great idea.

Audra: Well, good night. I had a lovely time.

Kyle: Thank you.

[ Audra sighing ]

Diane: Jack, what’s wrong? You okay? Febreze!

[ Victoria sighing ]

Victoria: So, should I pour myself another bourbon so that we can toast nate helping us out in nick’s absence?

Victor: Well, I’m going to head home. But just know… that I’m going to keep a close eye on things around here.

Victoria: I would expect nothing less.

Nate: Nor would I. Have a good night.

Victoria: Good night, daddy.

Victor: Good night.

Victoria: So what did you and my father talk about?

Nate: He made it clear he’s aware of me trying to make a power grab by stepping in for nick. But I think I got him to warm to the idea.

Victoria: Ah, I was afraid that’s what it was about. He was grilling me about my decision before you got here. But I hope that now, he finally understands that this is my choice. And it’s the right one.

Nate: You are brilliant. How could your judgment be wrong?

Victoria: If we’ve won my father over, then we’re both brilliant.

Billy: There’s something going on. You got that gleam in your eye.

Ashley: You’re right. I was thinking about getting my own piece of pie.

Billy: Unfortunately, this is the last piece.

Ashley: Darn it.

Billy: So, why don’t you go ahead and start spilling?

Ashley: I have something up my sleeve, but it’s not nefarious. It’s benign. I think it’s a positive.

Billy: And you’re not gonna tell me what it is?

Ashley: Not on your life.

[ Billy sighing ]

Billy: Which makes me even more suspicious, ashley. God, I really hope you know what you’re doing.

Diane: Jack, what is it? You look upset.

Jack: You know what? Let’s go down to the lounge, have a dance, come on.

Diane: We haven’t even ordered yet and you said you were starving.

Jack: I– I don’t want to spoil this evening.

Diane: Okay, wait a minute. Don’t– don’t do that. Don’t not tell me something, because you think it will upset me. It’s not who we are. That’s not how I want this marriage to work.

Jack: You’re right. I just saw our son walk upstairs.

Diane: Kyle? What’s he doing here?

Jack: I think he got himself a hotel room.

Diane: Oh, no, that means that he and summer had another fight, which is all my fault.

Jack: Wait, it’s not your fault. They have issues to work out. They are their issues. Diane, this is why I almost didn’t mention it.

Diane: I just don’t like that he’s running away from his problems. I just wish there was something we could do to help them work through everything.

Jack: Yeah, maybe, one more night apart will remind them how much they need each other.

Tucker: So, if we– if we call your line simply Ashley, we still need a name for the corporation.

Ashley: Yeah.

Tucker: So, what do you think would really piss aJck off? How about, uh, McCall-Abbott Industries?

Ashley: Oh, I don’t like that at all. No, it should be Abbott-McCall Industries.

Tucker: Of course.

Ashley: Right? Because it’s just, you know, rolls off the tongue easier. It’s a much nicer ring to it. You think?

Tucker: All right. How about something a little more expansive?

Ashley: Uh-huh?

Tucker: McAbbott Universal?

Ashley: Oh, yeah. Okay, we gonna serve fries with that?

Tucker: Well, whatever the name is, it’s gotta– it’s gotta send a clear message that we mean business.

Ashley: Right. Right. I think that, um, anything with universal and global in it is just maybe a bit too expansive.

Tucker: How about, um, Tushley?

Ashley: Okay, you’re not gonna stop are you?

Tucker: No.

Ashley: Not until I say yes? It’s a lot of fun talking about this imaginary company that we own together, right? But um, I’d like to know how the inner machinations would actually operate.

***************

Audra: So, something is clearly bothering you. Feel like talking about whatever it is?

Kyle: That’s the last thing I wanna do. Today has been absolutely disastrous. Hell, this whole week has been absolutely disastrous. What I really need is to forget about everything going on in my life. Shut it out. Pretend none of it is happening.

Audra: Yeah, I know that feeling all too well. Been there and I’m happy to help.

Sharon: Faith, I’m fine. I’m keeping busy, I promise. Well, with all kinds of things. You’re too sweet to call and check on me. I’m supposed to be the one asking you that question.

[ Knocking on the door ]

[ Sharon gasps, sighs ] Hold on, somebody’s here.

[ Adam exhaling ]

Nick: How are you feeling?

Sally: I don’t know.

Nick: What can I do?

Sally: Uh, nothing.

[ Sally chuckling ]

Nick: Uh, do you wanna lay down or…

Sally: I will figure it out.

Nick: Are you in pain? Is it time for your medication?

Sally: Oh, I don’t know. Maybe.

Nick: I can handle that. I can prep whatever. If you’re hungry, I can get you some food from downstairs.

Sally: Okay, will you just stop, please? You’re hovering and it’s making me really uncomfortable.

Nick: Yeah. Uh, sorry. That’s the last thing you need.

Sally: It’s just an awful reminder that everything is not okay and that is far worse than any physical pain.

Summer: I have a confession that I need to make.

Chance: Am I gonna regret listening?

Summer: Probably.

Chance: Awesome. This is heading in a really great direction.

Summer: It’s my marriage. It might be ending. And it’s all because of the lies I told about my mom.

Phyllis. (Wheezing)

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Michael: What are you doing here? Where have you been? What did you do? I have too many questions.

[ Michael laughing ] You’re supposed to be on the run, but you seem rather stationary. I mean, in– in a room to which you were not invited.

Phyllis: You worried about me?

Michael: Yeah, of course, I am. I mean, again, what are you doing here? I set up a romantic evening for lauren. She could be here any minute.

Phyllis: Yeah, can we just stall lauren so I can explain to you what’s going on? Please?

Michael: Do you have any idea?

[ Michael scoffing ] No. Of course, you don’T. ‘Cause you’re only worried about yourself.

Phyllis: Michael, I’m sorry. I truly am sorry. Do you think that this has been fun for me?

Michael: I have half a mind to walk right out that door.

Phyllis: Oh, please, don’T. I need your help.

Michael: Damn it!

[ Chuckling ] Oh, it’s good to see you.

[ Michael grunting ]

Phyllis: Ditto.

[ Phyllis chuckling ]

Sally: I– I know I seem like I’m pushing you away right now and I’m sorry. I just– you’ve been nothing but sweet and attentive.

Nick: And that will only stop if you kick me out of here, which I hope you don’T. But if you need some space, sally, I get it. I hope you know, my invitation for you to move in with me doesn’t have an expiration date.

Sally: You know, maybe, I should hold off on making any major life decisions for a bit.

Nick: Of course. Whatever you need.

Sally: You know, maybe, now actually, is a good time for me to kick you out, ’cause I just don’t feel very receptive to nice things right now.

Nick: Well, I could be bad.

[ Sally sighing ] I mean it. Think about how good it would feel to, uh… you know, just get loud and shut me down. Get rid of all those bad feelings you don’t know what to do with. ‘Cause if that’s the case, then you can let me have it. I’m right here. Sticks and stones, fists of fury, whatever. You can get as loud and as mean as you want. Give me your worst. You’re entitled to that.

Sharon: Those were faith’s words by the way. I was just repeating them.

[ Adam laughing ]

Adam: And I bet they came straight from her heart. But, um, she’s right. It is late. I’m– I’m sorry. I, uh– I lost track of time.

Sharon: I’ve been doing the same lately.

Adam: Hmm, well, I wanted to see how you’re doing.

Sharon: I’m fine. Thanks for your concern.

Adam: Huh, well, where is faith? I will, uh, apologize to her myself.

Sharon: She is in michigan. I think she just needed a break from all the excitement.

Adam: And you’re okay being alone here after everything that happened?

Sharon: Who’s alone? I have friends stopping by my house late at night. Mariah and tessa are just the stone’s throw away, and nick, you know him, he practically, moved in. But, um, faith is safe, and that’s what matters.

Adam: Yeah, well, I’m just lucky you bounced back so quickly.

Sharon: I didn’t let cameron break me when he was alive and I’m sure not gonna let him do it now that he’s finally dead.

Adam: It’s easier to process it all if you get some distance from him. You know, the killing. I know what it’s like.

Sharon: I don’t need any distance. I did what was necessary to keep my daughter safe and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Somedays, I cover up because of my moderate With cirkul, your water is deliciously flavored at the turn of a dial, with zero sugar and zero calories. And cirkul has over 40 flavors, so your water can be as unique as you are. Try cirkul at drinkcirkul.Com (michael) copd is harder on the folks around you, I think.

Michael: You’re conveniently forgetting the fact that you, uh… faked your own death and tried to pin it on diane. Making you officially no better than miss diane jenkins, soon to be abbott.

Phyllis: Michael, take that back, please. Really?

Michael: I will not. We thought you were dead. We were devastated.

Phyllis: At least, I know how people think about me.

Michael: There are easier ways to find out.

Phyllis: Yeah? Maybe I should have asked people. Well, people were calling me names and treating me like garbage. You love me, michael?

Michael: Now? Not so much. No. And barging in on a romantic evening doesn’t even come close to making the top of my list of grievances.

Phyllis: Wow. Have you ever wondered what I’m going through?

Michael: Yeah. I’ve heard. It’s been on all the police radios. You killed a man.

Phyllis: He was about to kill me. So yes, I killed him. And everybody presumed I was dead, so nobody would be looking for me, right? It’d be done. I was terrified.

Michael: Understandably.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. And I fought for my life. And I tried to survive and I did. And I didn’t just do it for me, I did it for all of us and everybody who loves me. And I don’t feel bad about it because that man was garbage. Okay? So we could talk about all the grievances you have and you can itemize the criticisms you have of me, or we could talk about how you’re gonna help me before your wife walks through that door.

Michael: I’m not sure I know… how you think I can help you.

Phyllis: Well, you’re a lawyer. I committed crimes. So what do you think I need, michael?

Michael: Hm, a shoulder to cry on? An airline ticket to a country without extradition.

Phyllis: I’m not gonna run anymore.

Michael: You should have thought of that before you reached for the scissors.

Phyllis: Okay, wait a second. Let’s be honest here. Can you tell me something truthfully as a friend?

Michael: Oh, truthfully? Truthfully? Is that what friends do for one another?

Phyllis: Did I lose you to diane? Honestly, are you going to choose diane over me?

Summer: I lied to my husband. I knew that my mom was alive when everybody else thought she was dead. And now, I’m pretty sure that I’m dead to him. There was a moment when I could have come forward and said that diane was innocent. I could have proven it. Okay, there were– there were a few moments that I could have done that, but I didn’T. I– I kept up the charade and I let her sit in jail. Another thing. I– I was the one that my mom reached out to after her memorial service. It wasn’T… daniel, I– it was me.

Chance: Any idea why?

Summer: Because she knew I’d help her no questions asked. Because I’m just as deceitful as she is. You’re not surprised.

Chance: Blame it on my day job. Takes a lot to surprise me these days.

Summer: You know, this is the part where, as a friend, you might say something like… “you’re not a bad person, summer. Everyone makes mistakes.”

Chance: No, I think I’d say something along the lines of, “it’s been very clear now how far you’re willing to go to protect your mother.”

Summer: How much trouble am I in?

Sharon: So, how are you? Is it too soon to talk about the baby? That’s a hurt that never really goes away.

Adam: Hmm. Well, it’s good to know I have so much to look forward to.

Sharon: Trying to push those feelings down doesn’t work either.

[ Adan sighing ]

Adam: Well, it’s doing wonders for you, sharon. Two can play that game.

Sharon: Losing this baby, and then, losing sally all over again, that’s breaking you. You’re having a hard time focusing. You’re not eating and you definitely haven’t slept, am I close?

Adam: Well, it’s my, uh, survival mechanism.

Sharon: Avoidance?

Adam: Whatever works.

Sharon: Look… if you don’t wanna be honest with yourself about what this loss is doing to you, that’s fine. But what about sally?

Adam: I– she has nick.

Sharon: That’s different. You and sally, you need each other, as challenging and awkward as that may seem right now, you two lost so much together. You need to talk about what losing this little girl means to you. How you want to celebrate her or memorialize her. You know, just talk about it. Cry with her.

Adam: I– I can’T.

Sharon: Not even for sally? Isn’t she the woman that you would do anything for? I’m not saying that it’s gonna be easy or that it will happen overnight, but… you need to find a way to forgive yourself.

[ Adam sighing ]

Adam: And how am I supposed to do that?

Nick: If you don’t get these feelings out, they’re just gonna fester.

Sally: Believe me, you do not wanna see this level of anger.

Nick: I can handle it. Have you met my dad?

Sally: Look, I’m gonna take this mask off and trust me, you’re gonna see what’s underneath it and you’re never gonna wanna see me again.

Nick: You can let go with me. I’ve got you. Pretend I’m someone else then. Disposable. I’m teflon. Pretend I’m adam. The doctors, the universe, whatever, just get it out.

Sally: Look, if I start screaming, I’m not gonna stop. And I’m so scared that this is gonna be my world from now on. Just remembering what could have been, and… that I’m never gonna be that happy again.

Nick: Well, I’m here, sally. I’m yours.

Sally: [ Sighing ] Thank you.

Nick: But you don’t need anyone, right? I mean, not really. You’re tough. You can take it.

Sally: God, but I don’t want to have to take it! Everyone that I’ve ever loved has left me. And I finally wasn’t gonna be alone anymore. Ava was gonna be my world. How do you just get over losing someone like that?

Nick: But you’re resilient. They say–

Sally: Okay, well, they’re– they’re idiots, okay? Ava was my everything. And now, I have to spend the rest of my life trying to forget ’cause that is the only way I see myself getting through this. Forget about the doctors who told me that I was gonna be okay because I want them dead. And adam, who made the decision to let our baby die instead of me and leaving me to live with this pain for the rest of my life? How am I ever gonna be able to forgive him for that? God, and if I hadn’t been so stressed out, then maybe– maybe, she would have had more time. Oh, and trying to forget that I was stressed because of you. Where the hell were you, nick? Keeping me in the dark, leaving me to think the worst and not answering your phone? I mean, you were supposed to make everything okay. You were the one person I could count on. And I get it. I do. I really do. Your family needed you. But what about me? Where were you when I needed you?

[ Sally sobbing, sniffling ]

Nick: It’s okay. It’s okay.

[ Sally sobbing ] (Man) what if my type 2 diabetes takes over?

Adam: I appreciate you trying to help sharon, but everything between sally and me is– it’s over. She hates me.

Sharon: Well, when she first learned she lost the baby, sure.

Adam: I– I went back to see her today and I poured my heart out, uh, hoping to make her understand why I did what I did.

Sharon: How’d that go?

Adam: Um, I’m the loser in the blame game. So, as far as my demons go, let ’em be. I could use the company. Sally and I are going on our separate ways. It just wasn’t in the stars.

Sharon: You two were split when this baby was conceived.

Adam: Yeah, that’s true.

Sharon: I just find it interesting that when the doctors gave you the choice between saving sally or the baby, you chose sally. Is that because you thought maybe, somewhere down the line–

Adam: I– I wasn’t thinking. I wanted them both. I wanted the baby and sally. I never wanted our baby to–

[ Adam sighing ] I made a– a choice with the information that I had. Sally could survive. She could have other children someday if that’s what she wanted.

Sharon: But those children wouldn’t be with you.

Adam: Yes, that is true. I know that. But like many have said, it’s not about me. Sally’s the only one that matters. So, now, life goes on. It’s just– it’s just not the life that I wanted. Look, I should get going, okay?

Sharon: Adam.

Adam: Oh, I, uh– good night, sharon.

Nick: I hope you know how sorry I am. The way everything turned out.

Sally: I know. Me, too.

[ Sally sniffling ]

Nick: Feel good to get all that out?

Sally: Kinda. Yeah. [ Scoffing ]

Nick: You sleepy?

Sally: How could you tell?

Nick: I know you. And I know you really want to get in that bed. You want some help?

Sally: I would love your help.

Nick: Come on. Easy. Easy, easy.

[ Sally groaning ] You want some company?

Sally: Please. Okay.

Nick: Easy. There we go.

Sally: You know, you don’t have to stay the night. I know you’ve had a rough couple of days too, so just– you can go home. I’m sure christian will wanna see his father in the morning.

Nick: I’m not going anywhere until you fall asleep. However long that takes.

[ Sally sighing ]

Chance: Christine wants to bring charges against you the same time we indict phyllis.

[ Summer laughing ]

Summer: Of course.

Chance: I’m sure it’s nothing personal.

Summer: You really said that with a straight face. My mom’s nemesis is in charge of our fate.

[ Chance sighing ]

Chance: You know, summer, i wish I had better news for you.

Summer: Do you have any news at all? I mean, has anybody seen my mom?

Chance: How am I supposed to answer that? As the lead detective or your friend?

Summer: Is there a middle ground in there somewhere?

Chance: There have been no sightings.

Summer: And even if there had been–

Chance: You would be the last to know.

Summer: Great.

Chance: You really don’t know where she is, do you?

Summer: If you do find her, you’re gonna prosecute her to the full extent of the law, right?

Chance: I have no choice.

Michael: You don’t think that I tried not to be her lawyer? I did everything I could to get out of it. Lauren even– don’t start me with that. That woman loves you.

Phyllis: I love her. I can’t wait to see her and all of my friends and hug them and show them how much I love them.

Michael: Hey, good luck with that.

Phyllis: What do you mean good luck with that? Don’t be negative. You probably can’t take my case, right? Because it’s conflict of interest.

Michael: Diane’s been cleared of a crime that never happened. So, yeah. I’m a free agent.

Phyllis: I need you, michael. I need you to take the case. I need the best and that’s you. You have to plead my case, please.

Michael: Well, summer did already offer me the opportunity and I have to say, I graciously accepted.

Phyllis: What? Why didn’t you say something? Why did you let me go on and on?

Michael: Maybe I just needed to get some anger out.

Phyllis: Summer asked you?

Michael: Yeah, she takes after you. She’s inherited that chaos agent gene. She’s impulsive and–

Phyllis: Fearless.

Michael: Fear– fear is good. Fear keeps us alive and out of court. Are you aware of how many laws summer has already broken because of you? Look, if she doesn’t watch her step, she’s headed for big trouble. Oh

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Phyllis: Oh, my goodness. You make it sound like keeping secrets is illegal. Summer’s fine.

Michael: Oh, well, this next endeavor she’s planning is more serious than aiding and abetting a fugitive or even obstruction.

Phyllis: You’re gonna have to be more specific with me.

Michael: The emt that helped you fake your death, she wanted to bribe him to commit perjury to swear that he witnessed you killing stark in self-defense.

Phyllis: Full disclosure?

Michael: No, I shouldn’t be hearing this.

Phyllis: That is true.

[ Michael groaning ] It’s true. He did witness it. He witnessed everything. But getting in touch with him is my plan. Summer has nothing to do with it, really. So take it away from summer. It’s all me. It’s all me, michael. It’s not perjury.

Michael: And what? Incentive? Do you trust me?

Phyllis: With my life.

Michael: Then from now on, you let me come up with the plans. Stark was a bottom feeder. There’s gotta be more we can learn from that emt. He’s got another whole story. The coverup, the bodies in the morgue. Stark’s ease with death. The lengths he’d go through to put his hands on your money. Carson. Carson can testify to his darker tendencies. He can really strengthen your case.

Phyllis: And he saw it all. He did. He knows it all. He knows what I went through and what stark made me do.

Michael: Well, unfortunately, we haven’t been able to locate him. Not even with victor’s help.

Phyllis: Victor’s help? Victor wants to see me in prison, not help get me out of prison.

Michael: Summer asked him to do what he could to find carson. The man has a special place in his heart for that grandkid.

Phyllis: Yeah, I’m sure he does. He doesn’t for me. We hate each other. So let’s keep him out of it. I rely on you.

Michael: You know… sometimes, if we want people to surprise us and we give them a chance, they usually do.

Phyllis: Yeah. And sometimes they surprise us with something good.

Michael: So, let’s change the world so you can come home.

Phyllis: Will you represent me?

Michael: Will you turn yourself in?

[ Phone ringing ]

Nick: I was just thinking about you.

Sharon: I was just calling to say that you can take me off of your list of people to worry about tonight.

Nick: Ah, it doesn’t work like that. Once you’re on the list, it’s a forever kinda thing.

Sharon: Who’s looking after you?

Nick: What is this? You looking for someone to hang out with and you’re just too brave to ask?

Sharon: No, I’m fine. Actually, adam just stopped by to see how I was doing.

Nick: All right. Uh, well, I could, uh, I could come over if you want. I mean, it’s not like I have a job to get to in the morning.

Sharon: What’s happening at newman?

Nick: I was forced into a temporary leave of absence. It seems my personal issues are no longer compatible with the company’s health, so.

Sharon: Well, that’s not the worst thing, you know. Take care of your health and, you know, give it some time. Let things get back into a normal healthy rhythm.

Nick: I’m a dangerous man with too much time on my hands.

Sharon: I have no doubt that you will find a productive way to spend your r&R.

Nick: Well, the only way I want to be productive is to work.

Sharon: Then find something.

Nick: All right, I’ll look into it. Thanks.

Sharon: Anytime.

Nick: Call me if you need me.

Sharon: I will.

Nick: Night. Tv: Try tide power pods with 85% more tide in every pod.

Adam: Thank you. You know, I– I really hope this isn’t becoming a thing. Us sharing a drink and our– our woes.

Nick: Well, one of us could leave.

Adam: Or you could just tell me how sally is doing.

Nick: How do you think, man? She’s– she’s spiky, you know. So it’s not a good time for her if you’re trying to come and make amends.

Adam: Nick, I live upstairs too.

Nick: Yeah. I’m just trying to figure out where your head’s at. You know, you kept showing up to the hospital when sally specifically asked you not to. Then you roll by sharon’s tonight.

Adam: Okay, what is wrong with seeing a friend who just fought her way through hell?

Nick: No, you went there to see if she could fix your life for you while she’s dealing with her own stuff. It’s typical.

Adam: Don’t you think it’s a little late to try to be everyone’s hero, nick? I wasn’t the only one who made a choice that night. You could’ve chosen to stay with sally, be the standup guy that she needed. I mean, you said that you love her, right?

Nick: I do love her. But–

Adam: But only when sharon doesn’t need you. I mean, you put me in charge of sally’s care while you were on your little side quest to bring down cameron. You got to be the hero and I’m the one who took all the blame.

[ Sally sighing ]

[ Sally sighing ]

Phyllis: I gotta make sure you got this.

Michael: Phyllis! Yes.

Phyllis: You know what? I already stayed too long.

Michael: No, you can’t keep going on like this. With no family, no friends, no one you can trust.

Phyllis: It’s really hard.

[ Phyllis laughing ] I don’t like being on the run.

Michael: Stay.

Phyllis: Make me an offer I can’t refuse.

Michael: You’ll be close to people who love you, who miss the heck out of you.

Phyllis: Missing all of you is all I think about. You gotta get me out of this, michael.

Michael: Okay. Okay. We’re gonna take all– all this messiness and put it behind you so you can get on with your life so you could be happy again. So you could walk down the streets of this town with your head held high. Carson, he’ll help. What do you say? With moderate to severe plaque psoriasis,

Nick: Nobody asked what happened that night. But, adam, honestly, I’m really glad you were there to do whatever you could.

Adam: You mean take a kick in the teeth so my big brother can shine?

Nick: Here we go.

Adam: No, really, I– I would really like to know how that feels to be the guy in the spotlight when the credits roll. You know, saved his family from a lunatic. And what does nick do on his victory lap? He swoops in to fix what adam couldn’T. I mean, you’re a hero. And I just get shoved back in the corner where I’m expected to stay until I’m needed.

Nick: That night took its toll on all of us.

Adam: Yeah, but you came outta that sewer smelling like a rose. Even though I did everything right, it all fell apart. How does that happen, nick? No, really. I would like to know because I– I just– I– I really wanna get this right for next time. And we both know there’s gonna be a next time. Someone’s gonna need me to do their dirty work. The stuff that they just don’t have the stomach for. You know, the unspeakable stuff, the decisions that nobody ever wants to make.

Nick: It was an awful night for everybody.

Adam: Yeah, well, it was worse for some.

Nick: And just so you know, I have told sally she needs to find some way to forgive you for something that was not your fault. But this is up to sally. All right? Wherever this goes from here is completely up to her. Now, she has decided that because the baby is sadly no longer here, there is nothing left between the two of you. So, if you ever cared about her, then you’ll respect that and stay away from her.

[ Adam sighing ]

Adam: Thanks for the advice.

[ Nick sighing ]

Chance: I feel like I said a lot of things you didn’t wanna hear and now you don’t wanna be friends anymore.

Summer: Yeah, well, it doesn’t matter. I told you once we get up from this table, the whole friend thing is dead.

Chance: It was fun while it lasted. So don’t worry. We’ll find your mom.

Summer: It’s your job after all.

Chance: You really think that’s the only reason I wanna find your mom? Hm? You know, until she comes back, you can’t move on. All this stuff between you and kyle and the rest of your family, it stays in limbo. But when she does come back, you can then focus on more important things like yourself, your life, what you want.

Summer: You’re right. You know what, you might have helped me after all. We need to find my mom.

Chance: Where the hell have you been? This is what I’ve been trying to do for the past month.

Summer: Okay, well, I’m gonna help you this time. We’re gonna help each other… ’cause that’s what friends do.

Phyllis: Michael, I– I can’t turn myself in yet. I can’t do it. Um… don’t hate me please.

Michael: Never.

Phyllis: All right. But this is a good talk, you know. I’m gonna weigh my options and take everything you said to me into account.

Michael: Yeah, well, don’t take too long. The clock is ticking.

Phyllis: All right. It was good chatting with you.

Michael: Come home.

Phyllis: Well, I will. One day. And what a grand day that’ll be, right?

Michael: Oh, I can’t wait. You know, I hate waiting. Phyllis… I’m gonna see you again, aren’t I?

Phyllis: Let’s make a deal. Work your magic… and I will come back with bells on.

Transcript provided by Suzanne

Ashley: My sister meant well. But traci, she’s so sweet. She just wants jack and I to lay down our swords. But from what I can tell, it’s not working. Not even a little bit.

Tucker: So, it had no impact on you at all? Doesn’t expending all this energy on hatred just wear you out?

Ashley: What is wrong with everybody? Why can’t you see that what I’m doing isn’t because of my hatred for diane? It’s because of love for my family and my brother. I don’t get it.

Jack: Hey, I got your text. Came as soon as I could. What’s up?

Diane: Well, thanks for rushing over, but I’m afraid it might be too late.

Jack: Why? What happened?

Diane: Well, I tried to bridge the gap between kyle and summer, but the whole thing might have backfired. It just went horribly wrong and now I– I’m afraid I’ve made things even worse.

Summer: Kyle. Kyle! Can you please stop? Wait a second. Look, it’s fine if you’re pissed off and you want to storm out of society and it’s fine if you hate me right now, but please, can you just stop with this evasion and silent treatment and talk to me?

Kyle: I don’t want to discuss this right now.

Summer: Okay, then when? When are you gonna want to discuss this? Because if you’re– you’re really that angry that you– you don’t feel like you can move past this at all, then you need to step up and say so.

Abby: Yep.

[ Knock on door ] Um, I’ll get it.

Devon: You sure?

Abby: Yep. Got it.

Chance: Hey.

Abby: Oh.

Chance: I’m sorry to do this to you. I, uh, I know I’m supposed to have him for a few more days, but I just got called into a new case. Louise has the flu, so… all that’s kind of blown up my plan.

Abby: Um. Yeah. Yeah, no problem.

Chance: Yeah?

Abby: Yeah.

Chance: Thank you.

Abby: We always love having dominic at home.

Chance: Uh, yeah. Look, I’m– I’m kind of in a hurry, but there is something I’d like to talk to you about while I’m here. Uh, it’s about dominic and this whole situation. It’s just not really working out. Choosing a treatment for your chronic migraine –

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Abby: Well, our boy knocked right out, so he must have had quite the day.

Chance: Yeah, never had a dull moment with him. That’s actually what I’d like to talk to you about.

Devon: Is something wrong with him?

Chance: No, no, everything’s fine. I just noticed that instead of enjoying the fact that he has two different places to live, I think it stresses him out. Every time we switch, he gets real fussy and uh, it’s kind of a struggle to calm him down. I won’t lie.

Abby: Oh, I– I didn’t realize.

Chance: Well, don’t get me wrong. It’s just when he first gets to my place. Once he has settled in and we’re having a good time, we got to pack his stuff up and come back here. So as much as we justify it to ourselves, I think the back and forth seems to be confusing him.

Abby: So, what are you suggesting? That we change our custody agreement?

Tucker: You have convinced yourself that you are saving jack from himself.

Ashley: Well, that’s exactly what I’m trying to do. I know that diane is a present danger, clear and present danger to our family’s company and the fact that jack doesn’t see that–

Tucker: Jack is a grown man! He doesn’t need protecting from anyone, by anyone. Least of all you.

Ashley: That’s kind of harsh, don’t you think? I mean a little–

Tucker: When did you become your brother’s keeper? If he wants to throw his life away with diane, that’s his problem. But if it causes chaos at jabot, so be it. That’s just how it goes.

Ashley: Oh, yeah, sure. Who cares, right? But it’s really easy for you to say that. It’s not your family. It’s not your father who built that company, tucker.

Tucker: Yeah, but your father’s company is now a yoke around your neck. You know, you’re just– I think you’re bigger and better than all of this pettiness. And it occurs to me that you have earned the right to call your own shots now. To build your own legacy.

Ashley: With you?

Tucker: Yes. You’re damn right. Yes with me.

Ashley: Okay.

Tucker: So what’s it gonna take to pull you across the finish line here, to… help you let go of this misguided need to protect jack and jabot.

Ashley: Our mother left us when we were just little kids. We’ve been protecting each other ever since.

Tucker: I understand, but it’s gone too far now. And it might be too late to save him anyway. I think what you need to concentrate on is purging yourself of this hatred for diane. And if you can do that, your whole world will be magnificent again.

Jack: How exactly did you make things worse for summer and kyle? What did you do?

Diane: Well, summer and I came here after leaving the family meeting earlier. She wanted my help convincing kyle to forgive her. And well, she made it very clear that if I did help her, it would go a long way towards me making amends for my part in things, which– which is important to me. And then kyle showed up…

Kyle: Excuse me, summer, but would you mind if I speak to my mother in private?

Diane: Uh, kyle, we can do that, but I think that maybe you should sit down and we should speak as a family first. You know, there are some things I need to tell you and, um, I’d like for summer to be part of that conversation as well.

Kyle: Look, mom, if this is about the problems between me and summer, I’d prefer you didn’t get involved.

Diane: It– it is, but not in the way that you think.

Kyle: Okay, in what way then?

Diane: Did you know that harrison has been crying himself to sleep the last three nights?

Kyle: What? How could that be? I’ve read to him until he’s fallen asleep every night.

Diane: Well, he wakes up about half an hour later and comes and finds his didi with tears in his eyes.

Summer: Tears, why?

Kyle: What’s he so upset about? Why didn’t he come to me?

Diane: He wouldn’t tell me what was going on at first, but then he finally asked what he was doing to make his mommy and daddy so upset.

Summer: Why didn’t you tell us that he was crying at night?

Kyle: Yeah, you should’ve come to us with this right away.

Diane: Well, I was afraid that you would think that I was interfering in your relationship. And plus I– I figured that the two of you would work things out soon, but it has been three nights in a row.

Jack: Wow. That is a lot for that kid to be carrying around.

Diane: Oh, yeah.

Jack: I hate that he blames himself for the chaos and upset that’s going on in our home. This is a lot for you to carry around. I mean, why didn’t you tell me?

Diane: Well, I– I– I didn’t tell you because it isn’t true. I told a little white lie trying to push kyle past his anger toward summer since she betrayed him. I was hoping that it would focus them both on what’s really important to them. Their family, their little boy.

Jack: It wasn’t true. Seriously?

Diane: Oh, no. It just kind of came to me and I went with it.

Jack: You lied to kyle. Again.

Chance: I am suggesting that we change the custody agreement slightly. Look, we all know that dominic loves the mansion. It was his first place that he lived. I would like for you to consider moving into the chancellor house. Devon, I’m sure your grandmother would love it. Abby, you could come back home and dominic could have all the space he could ever ask for to run, play and grow. I’m gonna take an apartment closer to the police station. I don’t need that big thing, okay? I don’t need to be rattling around all by myself in that big old mansion. I would much rather dominic have it. That way I can come visit whenever. And the chancellor home, you know, the first place that he lived, will be his permanent home.

Devon: Well, okay. Well, this is, uh, it’s not what I expected.

Chance: Yeah. Well, look, I, uh, I do have to run. I apologize. So, I’ll let you guys talk it over, but just know I still want to share custody. I still want to see him as much as I can, okay? Nothing’s changed and I understand this is a big move, so if you’re not up for it, I totally get it. I just wanted to put it out there for dominic’s sake. Talk to you soon.

Devon: Thanks.

Abby: Wow. Um, I was not expecting that at all, but I know chance is coming from a good place. But I mean, this is a huge decision for both of us. Is this even something that you would consider?

Ashley: You’re not wrong. It’s exhausting, having all this hatred towards diane, but I can’t just turn it on and off like a light switch, you know, not when she’s such a threat.

Tucker: Yeah. I’m sorry to tell you, but you’re not the only one who’s finding it exhausting. Diane seems to be occupying more space in your head than anyone else in your life right now. Wherever we go, diane seems to be with us. We might as well always ask for a table for three. We can’t have a conversation without it eventually steering back to diane. Diane this, diane that. Jack, jabot, jabot, jack, enough already.

Ashley: I apologize.

Tucker: Enough of jabot.

Ashley: I am so deeply sorry. It can’t always be about you. And maybe you’re missing the point here. I can’t just walk away from this company, tucker. It’s in my dna. It always will be a part of me.

Tucker: So, you’re always going to be miserable. You’re always going to be consumed by hatred and paranoia? All right, think about this. Let’s say you’re right. Let’s say your prediction about diane’s right and she brings jabot crashing down. You know what we do? We swoop in, we scoop it up, we fold it into our own company, which would make us stronger than ever. And you could rein over everything you see. Yeah?

Ashley: Well, I don’t want jack and traci and billy to think that I want to stab them in the back and destroy the family company. That’s not what I’m doing this for, you know that. I want to protect the company. I want to protect my father’s legacy. That’s what I mean when I say I’m doing this out of love and not hatred. Don’t you hear what I’m saying?

Tucker: Right, then let diane crash and burn on her own. That’s the best way to prove to jack what a threat she is anyway.

Diane: I’m not going to try to defend what I did other than to say my heart was in the right place. It was an innocent white lie. And you know what? Part of me is afraid that harrison might have picked up on the tension between his parents.

Jack: But you don’t know that. I mean, he hasn’t said that to you, has he?

Diane: No, no, I guess not. And I– I guess I took it too far. I just– I just wanted to rattle kyle into realizing what his anger towards summer could be costing his son.

Kyle: I had no idea this was impacting my son like this. I’ve had talks with him explaining that sometimes adults have arguments and it takes a little time for them to work through their problems, but I made it as clear as I possibly could that didn’t mean we love him any less.

Diane: Well, clearly it wasn’t enough. He’s– he’s suffering.

Summer: Kyle, this is even more of a reason for us to start trying to work things out between us. Harrison has been through so much in his life already. We owe him a sense of security now. Don’t you agree with that?

Kyle: Summer, are you sure you didn’t already know about harrison’s apparent upset?

Summer: No. How– how could I? I’ve been sleeping in the pool house. I go in and I say good night to him when you’re not around and then I go away.

Kyle: I’m still finding it odd that I’m only hearing about this now. Harrison has shown no signs of being upset or worried. He’s been the same happy-go-lucky guy. But if this is true, I am very concerned about my son and I will do everything I can to calm him down.

Diane: What do you mean? If this is true?

Kyle: Well, I’m just having a hard time understanding that he could have such a strong reaction that I wouldn’t have seen or sensed it. At least not to the level that kept him up at night. Something feels off here.

Diane: And then the whole thing just spiraled from there. And I– I had to admit that I might have exaggerated the situation.

Jack: I can imagine how that went down.

Diane: I was just hoping that kyle could realize that he needs to find a way to forgive his wife.

Jack: You do realize what you’ve done?

Diane: Yes, I know. And I know that it was a bit desperate. And I– and I know that I shouldn’t have used our grandson that way, but it wasn’t a total fabrication. I do think that harrison has picked up on the tension between his parents. He knows that there’s something going on.

Jack: But you tried to convince kyle it was a lot worse than that.

Diane: Yes, I know. And then after I confessed to him, he stormed out. But summer was right behind him.

Kyle: Honestly, I don’t know what I want. All I know is that this is hell for me.

Summer: Kyle, this is hell for me too. I believe what diane was saying earlier, that harrison is picking up on what’s going on. He knows that there’s a conflict between us and the question is how are we gonna fix it?

Kyle: I don’t know. Maybe what we need to do is take some time apart. Really apart while we try to figure this out.

Summer: What does that mean? Like a formal separation? (Wheezing)

Summer: Kyle, you can’t really mean that.

Kyle: I’m sorry. I– I can’t get beyond this betrayal. You kept this a secret from me for weeks. You lied repeatedly to my face and all I wanted to do was comfort you. I thought something was wrong with me, that I couldn’t do what you needed to help you feel better. How could you have been so cruel to me?

Summer: I know that I handled it badly. I know that I did. But kyle, I was caught between protecting my mom and–

Kyle: Destroying mine? Still, you could have come to me. Told me everything and we could have found a way to deal with it together, but instead, you opted to betray my trust and freeze me out.

Summer: Kind of like what you did when you worked with my grandpa behind my back. You know, I felt betrayed then too.

Kyle: Oh, no, no, no, this is completely different and you know, it. That wasn’t life or death, incarceration or freedom. You took my love and my sympathy and you threw it back in my face. You broke my heart. And the worst part is you didn’t trust me to help you through the trauma you were going through. The fact is you betrayed every bit of confidence I have in you. In us.

Summer: But we can get through this. I know that we can. I love you. And you love me… don’t you?

Kyle: You chose your mother over me. You were willing to let my mom suffer and maybe spend the rest of her life behind bars.

Summer: I would have never let it get that far. I promise you that.

Kyle: Well, we’ll never know for sure now, will we? No, I get the sense that this meeting at society was a clever little setup. Did you recruit my mother to help us bridge the gap? Was that stunt using harrison something the two of you cooked up?

Summer: I didn’t know what she was gonna do. But yes, I did tell diane that it would go a long way with me if she could help convince you to forgive me.

Kyle: Yeah. I thought so.

Summer: Kyle, I was desperate. You weren’t talking to me. I have never seen you that angry and I was– I was afraid for our marriage.

Kyle: And where did that lead, summer? Look at where we are now. You have made one bad choice after another. I… I think we need some time to process everything that’s happened. See what’s left. If anything.

Summer: Kyle, no, that’s too extreme. Do we really have to go that far? If we love each other, if you have ever loved me, then we should be able to work this out.

Kyle: I can’T. Not right now. I need time to think through things.

Summer: What does that mean? You want me to move out of the house completely?

Jack: Look, I’m– I’m not gonna lie. It upsets me that you used harrison to force kyle’s hand and I’m not surprised that this blew up in your face.

Diane: Well, I’m– I’m sorry. And I can see why you’re upset with me, but what am I supposed to do? I swear I was only trying to do something good, something to try to get them back together, and I– I feel like I need to try because I am partially to blame for their problems.

Jack: Wait, what are you saying? You are not to blame for what summer did.

Diane: No, but my feud with phyllis is at the center of this whole thing. Jeremy stark came back to town because of me and then he took advantage of phyllis’s intense hatred towards me.

Jack: You are no part of that scheme and summer went off the rails emotionally.

Diane: Well, yes, she did. But I– I think she was just grasping at any hope when she learned that her mother was alive. She had to do whatever she could to protect her, to– to try to clean up that mess and bring her back home safely.

Jack: That was your argument. Not using harrison.

Diane: I know. I’ve bungled this badly and I need to find kyle and try to fix it.

Ashley: Maybe you haven’t heard, but I’ve actually done something kind of like that. I went to paris with my patents and I created a very successful company. So how would this be different?

Tucker: Yes, yes, I recall that. This would be different in as much as you would not be alone. All right? And there’s no doubt you did a wonderful job in paris, which is why I know that together, we would be unstoppable.

Ashley: You really think so?

Tucker: I know so. And this time, you would not have the entire burden resting on your shoulders. I’d be right there with you. Think of how wonderful it would be to build something as a couple. Huh?

Ashley: That would be kinda awesome.

Tucker: Kinda awesome? It would be totally awesome. And we could do it right here in genoa city. Think about all the new products you could design. Oh, by the way, I’ve been spitballing names. You wanna hear my favorite? Simply ashley. Your name associated with beauty all over the world. People all over the world identifying with you, right? And then you and I become the power couple of the decade. You’re thinking about it. You’re seeing it in your mind’s eye, right? You’re gonna let jabot just pursue whatever goal it wants while you and I set the industry on fire.

Ashley: It would really hit jack right where he lives.

Tucker: Oh, god. Here we go again, jack, jack, I’m not proposing this as yet another means to get back at jack. I’m talking about taking this idea to its fruition, for us. And you’re either committed or you’re not. Are you in?

Ashley: Of course.

Tucker: Simone, if you please, a bottle of your finest champagne, for my business partner and me.

Ashley: Shh.

Devon: Honestly, the thought of dominic having one central place to call home is ideal. Because I’m sure it is rough for him to be carted back and forth between here and the chancellor mansion. But how would you feel being back in that house?

Abby: Well, there are a lot of things to consider. A lot of memories, both good and bad, and then there’s jill. I mean, that’s her landing spot when she comes to genoa city, and probably nina’s too. Even though she’s not here that often.

Devon: So would that be weird for you then? To be under the same roof as your ex-mother-in-law?

Abby: Whoo. Well, probably a little bit, especially after she told me exactly how she felt about me at the gala. Since I broke her son’s heart. I don’t know. What about you? This place is your home. Would you even consider giving it up? Even if it is the best thing for dominic?

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue. (Mom) america’s favorite strawberry yogurt.

Kyle: Living in the pool house is not much different than living in the main house. You still need to come in here on a regular basis.

Summer: That’s what you need a break from? You’re so angry at me that you want me as far away as possible? So what? You can decide if you want a divorce or not? You’re throwing me out because I was trying to protect my mom.

Kyle: No, you chose to protect your mom at the cost of honesty and the faith in me and our marriage.

Summer: What would you have done if the roles were reversed, kyle?

Kyle: My mother would never have stooped as low as phyllis. She never would have done what she did.

Summer: What are you talking about? Diane already did it. She faked her death. She abandoned you at a much younger age than me and daniel are now. Are you just forgetting that? How she walked out on you? Disappeared for years and how she was willing to let my grandma take the fall? You’re kidding yourself if you don’t believe how low your mom could stoop. What your mom did was no better than what my mom has done.

Kyle: I know you struggled with your feelings with my mother. That you believe she was guilty for phyllis’s death, but I really thought once you realized it was all a fake and phyllis was alive, you would see how wrong you were.

Summer: Yes, I was wrong about that, sure. But diane is guilty of so much more.

Kyle: And there it is. Your argument that you were just trying to protect phyllis no longer rings entirely true. Not when you’re still holding old grudges and punishing my mother for her lies.

Summer: You know, maybe you’re right. Maybe I should move out.

Jack: Summer, could I have a moment alone with my son?

Diane: Yeah, kyle. I would like to speak with you as well.

Summer: Fine.

Jack: Please tell me I didn’t just hear you ask summer to leave this house. Has it really gotten that out of hand?

Diane: Yeah. Look, you need to find some way to be able to forgive–

Kyle: Mom, I don’t want to hear your pleas for me and summer to work things out. Not when your meddling has already made things worse.

Devon: I gotta admit that leaving this penthouse wouldn’t be easy to do. ‘Cause there’s so much history here. You know, so many memories. I mean, I originally bought this place for hilary and I remember her initial reaction to it wasn’t what I expected. You said you wanted a real home, I thought that you’d be happy.

Hilary: First of all, this isn’t a real home. This is one of your gifts designed to keep me in line.

Devon: That’s not true.

Hilary: And secondly, how could you make such a huge purchase without consulting me? What if I don’t like this part of town?

Devon: This is your favorite neighborhood.

Hilary: Okay. What if I wanted a house with a yard?

Devon: Is that what you want?

Hilary: Maybe I want a pool or a tennis court?

Devon: Oh, hey, you remember we own athletic club right down the street. Or I could build you a gym downstairs. I could put a garden on the roof here. I mean, what– what do you really want?

Hilary: I want a damn say, okay? This is our life, devon. You and me. Sometimes I feel like I am just along for the ride. To smile and say thank you while you whip out your checkbook.

Devon: Well, that’s just not how I want you to feel at all.

Hilary: Then include me in things, okay? You wanna surprise me with a watch? Okay, fine. Go ahead, knock yourself out. But come on, devon. A home?

Devon: I agree with you. I get your point and I apologize, okay? But for the record, I did not buy this place for your gratitude.

Hilary: Really? You didn’t think that this big surprise was gonna make us kiss and make up?

Devon: Hilary, I bought this place because I love you and I want you to be happy. That’s the truth. Now for two seconds, can you forget about how much of an ass I am and just take a look around and see if you actually like it? Please? I mean, there’s more than enough space here for us. And think of all the ways that we can make it our own.

Hilary: Yeah, it has potential.

Devon: Sweetheart. This is in no way me trying to tie you down, okay? If anything, it’s me taking a step back so you can be exactly whoever it is you want to be. As long as that person is my wife, my partner, and my best friend.

Hilary: Well, it’s gonna need some paint.

Devon: Gosh. Hamilton-winters was created here too. I have so many good memories with neil in this place. Then again, it’s– this is also where he passed away.

Abby: I can only imagine.

Devon: Yeah. But, uh, you and I have made quite a few memories here. Wouldn’t you say?

Abby: Yes.

Devon: Remember when you set up that dinner so we could try out the food before you opened up society?

Abby: Yes.

Devon: It was fun.

Abby: Yeah.

Devon: And this is where we both realized that we’re in love with each other.

Abby: Yeah.

Devon: It’s not gonna be easy to leave this place. It’s a lot to think about.

Abby: Yeah. I don’t think I’ll be able to make a quick decision. I just, um, I don’t know. I wonder why chance is wanting to leave the chancellor house.

Devon: Well, I mean, I imagine because it probably gets lonely being by himself in such a big place. His mom and jill are rarely there. Dominic only comes over occasionally. I get it.

Abby: Yeah.

Devon: Maybe what he’s suggesting makes sense for us.

Abby: It would be nice to bring dominic back to the house where he spent the beginning of his life.

Devon: Yeah. It’s definitely something to think about.

Abby: Yeah. Even when I was with the people I love,

[ Ashley laughing ]

Tucker: So, if we– if we call your line simply ashley, we still need a name for the corporation.

Ashley: Yeah.

Tucker: So, what do you think would really piss jack off?

Tucker: The inner machination?

Ashley: Yes.

Tucker: What do you want? An organizational flow chart or something?

Ashley: Yes.

Tucker: You want to know who reports to whom and when.

Ashley: Yes. Yes. Yes, yes, yes. I want to know the dynamic we’d have.

Tucker: Between you and me? Oh, well–

Ashley: Well, obviously.

Tucker: We would be equals in every way, of course.

Ashley: Uh-huh.

Tucker: We would play off each other’s strengths.

Ashley: Right.

Tucker: Your brilliance in the lab creating products that people will die for. And my, uh, my remarkable business acumen.

Ashley: Right. About that. I mean wasn’t it that remarkable business acumen that pretty much tanked mccall?

Tucker: Yes, I…

Ashley: Did I say that?

Tucker: Did you say that? I know I– I made a misstep but my only fault was taking my eye off the ball and with you as my partner, I promise I will never take my eye off anything when it comes to you and me. Business or private. And I know that uh, with you at my side, you would never allow that to happen anyway. Would you? Have I convinced you yet?

Diane: My whole life has been a series of two steps forward and one step back. I mean, how long will it take for me to finally pay my dues?

Jack: Okay. Listen to me. You gotta stop thinking like that. This is phyllis’s doing, not yours. She knocked the floor out from underneath all of us with this stunt of hers and we’re all scrambling to regain our footing. Summer and kyle, you and me.

Diane: Well, I didn’t help matters using our grandson to try to mend kyle and summer. It was– it was pretty stupid.

Jack: It was not the best choice, but it’s done. And to your credit, it wasn’t malicious. You meant to help. You were trying to help kyle. And he will realize that as soon as he sees things clearly.

Diane: Well, I hope so.

Jack: You have to remember everything kyle is doing and saying right now is colored by his anger at summer. And that goes all the way back to phyllis.

Diane: I bet phyllis is having a good laugh right about now. I mean, even though I’m not in jail for her murder, she’s still getting revenge on me. A revenge that keeps causing pain. You know, she’s staying away so that she can avoid facing the music, but I bet there’s another reason. She knows that it is tearing this family apart and she is loving that.

Audra: So we meet again. And unfortunately, you don’t look like you’re in any better state of mind since the last time we met. Should I keep walking? Look for another saloon to have a quiet drink?

Kyle: No. Stay. Let me buy you one. With the freestyle libre 2 system.

Tucker: Champagne.

Ashley: Here’s to new beginnings.

Jack: Will you make me a promise?

Diane: Sure.

Jack: Will you embrace the positive and just let the negative in our lives take care of itself? We’re about to get married in the next couple of months. You’re gonna come work with me at jabot. We have so much to look forward to.

Diane: Yeah. Are you sure about jabot? I mean, me being there working with you, it’s bound to bring up conflict with ashley and maybe even billy.

Jack: Do I look like I care about that? As a matter of fact, let me show you something. You know how I asked the pr department to put together a press release about your new position? Asked them to polish things up and I wanted to send it out. Go?

Diane: Go.

Jack: Go.

Diane: Aw.

Jack: If the family is upset about that, too bad. They have a problem with this, it’s their problem, not ours.

Diane: Yeah. Mm.

Chance: You look like you could use someone to talk to.

Salud.

Kyle: Salud.
