Sally: I don’t get it. Why aren’t you as excited about this as I am?

Chloe: Um, because I’m not new in town. Because I have actual brain cells that are connected. Because this is victor newman that we’re talking about.

Sally: Exactly. Victor newman has offered us a contract to head up a whole new design division at newman enterprises. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Chloe: So, you think accepting an offer from victor is a good idea, but letting nick back us with no strings attached isn’t?

Sally: Okay, chloe, we’ve already been over this. My relationship with nick is far too important to let money get involved. It will muddy things and I’m not willing to run that risk. But this thing with victor, it’s clean.

Chloe: [ Laughs ] Clean? Um, honey, victor does not do clean. And we would be working directly under him and victoria, who, by the way, would love to see you go down in flames.

Sally: Yes, true, but once we prove–

Chloe: And we already have a job with chancellor-winters. You really want to throw all of that away?

Sally: It’s just freelance.

Chloe: It’s solid and above board. And lily and devon are two people that we like and we know that we can trust them, but this newman enterprises idea is… it’s a recipe for disaster.

Nate: I have to tell you, nikki, this is, uh– this is great work. Wait. I take that back. This is not just great, it is brilliant.

Nikki: So brilliant, it amuses you?

Nate: No, no. I was just remembering sitting in on this meeting with you and victoria. Those two guys came swaggering into the room and saw two women and thought they could bully you into buying anything they had to sell. But within five minutes, you had them eating out of your hand, begging you to do business with them. I’m telling you, it was inspiring. It’s an honor to be working with you. I can learn so much.

Nikki: Nate, enough.

Nate: Excuse me?

Nikki: Please, just stop. Gushing isn’t a good look on you. And for the record, it doesn’t flatter me. It just makes me suspicious.

Phyllis: You’re late. You’re late.

Adam: Yeah, I’ve been busy.

Phyllis: Really? Too busy getting information that I could use as leverage against tucker?

Adam: Even though you have refused to give me any details?

Phyllis: You know I would if I could.

Adam: Yeah, you keep saying that, phyllis. But, you know, would you tell me this? Am I safe in assuming that whatever tucker has over you is regarding your case and, um, your star witness for the defense, this emt guy, carson? Yeah, I thought so.

Phyllis: I have to beat these charges. I’ve got to. For myself, for my kids.

Adam: And not to mention, for me, nick and sharon. So, you can help us on our new company.

Phyllis: Well, I mean, that, too, of course.

Adam: But believe me, the, uh, thought of that scumbag tucker mccall getting in the way of that, it’s just– it’s out of question. So, if I can help you and your lawyer get some leverage that’ll keep you out of prison, I’m in.

Phyllis: I mean, you know I’ll make it worth your while. You have my word on that.

Adam: And I will hold you to that. You have my word on that. And you will be pleased to know that I may have already found something. Buried in the paperwork of his old company.

Phyllis: Oh, adam. Oh. What is it?

Adam: Well, let’s just say, if you put it to good use, tucker’s control over you will be seriously compromised. When my doctor gave me breztri for my copd

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Phyllis: Okay, what do you have? It has to be big, it has to be intimidating or else it will not work. It will not. Tucker thinks he’s above the law. He thinks he’s above everybody else.

Adam: Oh, it’s very big. Don’t worry. And it’s very intimidating. I mean, granted, tucker was out of commission at the time, but it went on to his company. He was involved, so he can still be held accountable.

[ Phyllis groaning ]

Phyllis: That last part makes me nervous.

Adam: No, don’t worry, okay? Just hear me out. So, it seems the pr department of one of his recording labels sat on some information that a major artist slept with several underage girls while he was on tour. Now, it eventually came out and the artist was arrested, but not until after the tour. They wanted to skirt any legal action until it was finished.

Phyllis: Right, right, because you don’t want statutory rape screwing up your lucrative tour, right?

Adam: Exactly. Well, tucker found out about it after the fact and he had his team work very hard to bury the whole thing.

Phyllis: That’s despicable.

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Phyllis: How’d you find out about this?

Adam: Well, as the new owner, I have all the mccall business paperwork, so I started digging. I worked backwards from the arrest and put together a reverse timeline, and I came across two emails which obviously slipped through the cracks. To tucker mccall from… audra charles. Found ’em in the junk mail.

Phyllis: Audra charles. Of course.

Adam: You ready? Number one. On it. Pr team needs to go first. Terminate with benefits to keep them quiet. Two, singer problem remedied. Hands clean. Now, tucker must have thought any reference to it in the files had been shredded, so there was definitely no red flags in the paperwork. He must have never thought someone like me would come along and do a deep dive. Look from the outside in.

Nate: I– I apologize, nikki. I certainly didn’t mean to offend you.

Nikki: Oh, I’m not offended. But I’m also not a pushover. I am as protective of this family’s business as victor is, and I have been very upfront with you telling you I have given you the benefit of the doubt, which is something that victor was not willing to do, as you know.

Nate: I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it.

Nikki: Well, so far, you haven’t given us any reason to doubt you, but nicholas…

Nate: Not so much.

Nikki: I trust my son’s instincts, and they are telling him that you have a hidden agenda. Now, if that turns out to be true, consider yourself forewarned. It will never come to fruition.

Nate: You have my word, nikki.

Nikki: Newman enterprises has survived much more dangerous threats than any self-serving game plan that you could come up with. Actually, it’s very simple. The house always wins. Am I making myself clear?

Nate: Crystal.

Nikki: I’ll tell you what. I have a quick meeting outside of the office. Why don’t you meet me at the athletic club? With victoria in madrid, it’s a perfect opportunity for us to sit down, just the two of us, and you can tell me how you see your future at newman.

Sally: Victor is not offering us freelance work where we have to worry about chasing our next assignment. He is offering us a solid, full time guaranteed contract heading up a whole new design division. The terms are very attractive.

Chloe: Once we prove ourselves, we won’t be chasing assignments. They will be chasing us. Do you really think that this newman offer is worth burning a bridge with chancellor?

Sally: I understand what you’re saying, but I did tell victor that–

Chloe: There are no buts. We made a commitment to chancellor and they made a commitment to us.

Sally: Yes, exactly. I–

Chloe: Uh-huh. Ah, okay. Now, I see exactly what this is.

Sally: What?

Chloe: This isn’t about making a great career choice, is it? This is about impressing victor for nick’s sake because you want to prove to his family that they have been misjudging you this whole.

Sally: Yeah. Yeah, that is part of it. I won’t deny that. But it is not the most important part. This is a great career move, not just for me, but for both of us. Can you not see that?

Chloe: You know what I see? I see victor having his son’s girlfriend under his thumb. You know, the whole “keep your enemies closer” kind of thing. He just wants to control you because now you are a fact of nick’s life. Which means that if I decide to go along with this, then victor will be controlling me too. No. No thanks, sally. There is not a chance in hell that I am going to put myself in the position of waiting for victor to get pissed off and grind me into the ground.

Sally: Okay, victor says he’s changing his opinion of me and I want to believe that. Why is that such a negative thing? Look, bottom line is that I think that we can make this work and I think that this could be a huge win for all of us.

Chloe: Well, I don’t want any part of it, so… you can count me out.

Phyllis: Wow. [ Laughs ] Tucker and his sidekick, audra charles, covered up statutory rape. Wow. You have the emails to prove it?

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Phyllis: This is the leverage I need.

Adam: Well, they were just sitting there waiting to be found.

Phyllis: Yeah, but you could have used this, you know, for your own advantage, but you chose to give it to me. Wow, adam, that means so much to me.

Adam: Well, you know me. I’m always thinking of others. I can use the audra charles connection myself when the time’s right and as for a surefire way to protect you from potential prison time, I can use that to my advantage, too. I have a new company to run and I only want to work with the best of the best and that means you. Can’t really work together if you’re behind bars.

Phyllis: Yeah, well, it doesn’t even matter. Your motives, it doesn’t matter. You gave me my ace in the hole against tucker. Can’t wait to see his face when I use it.

Nate: I really appreciate you inviting me to lunch, nikki. And I’m sure victoria will appreciate it, too. She adores you, you know. And this gesture on your part for us to get to know each other better–

Nikki: Nate, please. I– I just cannot bear hearing you blow some more smoke. I am here to get an honest answer for how you see things playing out for you here. The truth. Now, what is it that you want?

Nate: Fair enough.

[ Clears throat ] If I could have anything I wanted, it would be to run newman side by side with victoria. If that makes me ruthless and ambitious, guilty as charged.

Nikki: Keep going.

Nate: You’re doing one hell of a job, nikki, and I mean that. But you asked, so why not be transparent?

Nikki: Ah, thank you.

Nate: The short time I’ve been there, I’ve– I’ve grown to admire and love everything that newman enterprises represents. I hate that nick doesn’t trust me, and I hate that people think I had a hand in his leaving the company, even though he landed on his feet working with sharon and adam. But instead of siding with her brother, victoria supported me and trusted me every step of the way. Does that encourage me? Yes. Does it embolden me? Of course it does. And that’s a big part of why I think I can be a huge success at newman.

Nikki: You still haven’t answered my bigger question.

Nate: Which is?

Nikki: Are you in love with my daughter?

Adam: Hi. How you doing?

Sally: You go first.

[ Adam chuckling ] Okay. Uh, not great. Chloe refused to even consider victor’s offer to start our own design division at newman. She walked out on me and she’s convinced that your father has an ulterior motive.

Adam: Hmm. Well, there’s no doubt about it. Chloe is a shrewd judge of character. I mean, she’s always hated me. And victor newman always has an ulterior motive. You know that.

Sally: What if you’re wrong? Can I not get a job on my own merit?

Adam: May– may I? Look, of course you can get a job on your own merit. Okay, that comment was about my father. It was not about you. Victor newman has ulterior motives about my new endeavor. It’s what he does. It’s who he is. And anyone even close to the newman circle is fair game.

Sally: Yeah. No, I– I guess you’re right.

Adam: I would never insult your talent. You know that. I mean, who has praised and encouraged you more than I have since the moment that we met?

Sally: No one.

Adam: Right.

Sally: So… you think I should do it?

Adam: What I’m thinking right now in this very moment is how great it is to see you starting to get some of your fire back. Martial arts is my passion. With cirkul, your water is deliciously flavored at the turn of a dial, with zero sugar and zero calories. And cirkul has over 40 flavors, so your water can be as unique as you are. Try cirkul at drinkcirkul.Com some luxury creams just sit on top of skin.

Nate: No, nikki, I’m not in love with victoria. Enthralled, impressed, attracted? Absolutely. All the above. But I don’t think we’re anywhere near a relationship level that’s ready for love. Honestly, I have no idea if that’s in the cards for us.

Nikki: Let’s say the two of you break up. What does that do to your dream of running newman enterprises by her side? You can see my quandary here. If victoria turns out to just be an exciting fling, you will still want to run an empire with her? And that makes it very hard for me to understand your true intentions.

Nate: You walked me right into that one, didn’t you?

[ Chuckles ] Let me rephrase. Victoria and I have a rare understanding, not to mention chemistry, built on a strong foundation of friendship. I saw her resilience in the wake of ashland locke’s betrayal. And neither of us is especially focused on romance at this point. We’re in no hurry to categorize or label what we have. Yet. Down the line? Yes, I can definitely see myself falling in love with victoria if we keep seeing each other romantically, and I have a strong sense that she feels the same way about me.

Adam: To be fair, I’m not very, um, objective when it comes to my father. So, maybe I am being cynical. Maybe he is starting to appreciate your talent and your potential. And maybe starting a design division under the newman umbrella will be a formidable asset to your resume. I think it’s a good deal, sally. Does nick still have his doubts?

Sally: I’m surprised you’d ask or care.

Adam: I mean, of– of course I care.

[ Sally sighing ] But I mean, only how this is going to affect you.

Sally: Nick thinks that I need to be careful.

Adam: Well, that’s very… insightful of him.

Sally: Well, I haven’t even had a chance to tell him that chloe bailed on me because he’s– you know, he’s overseas.

Adam: Yeah, he’s meeting with the mccall divisions to get them excited about the changes and the kirsten merger. It’s one hell of a time for you to be alone.

Phyllis: Oh, yay, cricket. Hello. As if this day couldn’t get any better. Well, I don’t want to keep you.

Christine: Ah, it’s nice to see you enjoying your short lived freedom.

[ Phyllis chuckling ] I, uh, assume that heather told you your trial date’s been set.

Phyllis: Don’t get too gleeful. I know it’s your dream to see me fry, but I have everything I need to beat these charges, trust me. I’m going to be a free woman. I’m jonathan lawson

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue. What can you do with sensitive skin?

Nikki: Thank you for your candor. You were more open and honest than I’ve ever known you to be.

Nate: You’re welcome.

Nikki: So, let me return the favor. You are a man with brains, a tremendous ego and great ambition, but a pretty poor track record when it comes to relationships. Although, I will give you credit that you do seem to see victoria for who she is.

Nate: No doubt about that.

Nikki: Here’s what you don’t understand. You can be a hard worker, loyal, industrious all day long. You could make a fortune for newman enterprises, perhaps, even elevate it to a higher level.

Nate: But?

Nikki: But you have put yourself in a situation that will constantly bring you scrutiny. Now, I don’t have to tell you that victoria prides herself on her independence. And yes, parents are parents, but hers happen to be extremely protective. So, if you bring her more pain and anxiety than happiness, you’re gone. Not within days, within minutes. Get a nice severance package. We can pretend we’ve never heard of you and then all of your ego and ambition has gotten you absolutely nowhere.

Sally: I have to admit that having nick gone has actually been good for me. Not that I don’t miss him because I– I do. A lot, I– I– you know, I’ve just gotten too used to depending on him. It’s nice to be reminded that I can actually get through the day on my own and take charge of my own recovery, and– and heal a little bit every day. What about you? Are you finding a way to heal, too?

Christine: You have an amazing sense of self-preservation. I’ll give you that. And you obviously believe that if you say something over and over again that it has to come to fruition.

Phyllis: Well, whatever works, right?

Christine: You know, unfortunately, though, your future is not in your hands anymore. It’s in the hands of a jury. So, we’ll just have to wait and see who they believe.

Phyllis: We certainly will.

Christine: Yeah. But I have to tell you, what really offends me and what I will never, ever understand, is how you could be so selfish to pull summer into this, making her as susceptible to criminal charges as you are. I mean, after everything she has been through, I think that’s pretty unforgivable, don’t you?

Phyllis: Let me tell you something. I want you to listen closely. Do whatever you want to me, I would expect no less from you, but don’t you dare pull my daughter into this. I told myself I was ok with my moderate

Nikki: I have to take this. Excuse me.

Nate: Elena. It’s good to see you. How are you? How’s, uh, everything going at the hospital?

Elena: Nate, can you please stop it with the “I’m a good guy” act? Stop trying to be civil with me because I am not going to reciprocate. And you lost your right to expect that from me.

Nate: Fair enough. And if I shouldn’t have bothered you, I apologize. I just want us to be able to peacefully coexist.

Elena: I hear you also really want to fall in love with victoria. Hopefully, nikki didn’t fall for that. But perhaps, I should have a little chat with her and fill her in on your definition of love. You know, a little manipulation mixed with an unwavering commitment to do whatever it takes to trick women into falling for you. And if she doesn’t believe me, I could always have her talk to devon or lily. You see, nate, these games you keep playing are going to eventually backfire on you. And they are going to burn you down to the ground. And who knows? Maybe, I’ll be the person to light the fire.

Nate: Are you finished?

Elena: Almost. Just one more thing in case I didn’t make myself abundantly clear. That was a warning. Stay away from me. Hi, nikki.

Nikki: Hi. Well, another ex reduced to a pile of rubble in your wake? Is that what my daughter has to look forward to after everything she’s been through?

Adam: Are you sure that that’s something that you want to talk about?

Sally: Absolutely.

Adam: You know, it’s just– it’S… it’s not that easy for me.

Sally: It’s not that easy for me, either. It’s raw. And it’s painful. And it… it hurts in places that I didn’t even know existed.

Adam: That sounds familiar.

Sally: But, you know, I’m coming to see that, um, I have two choices. I can stay in bed and wallow in the darkness or I can get up and do whatever I can to move on from a tragedy that I can’t do a damn thing about. And work allows me to focus on something that I can control. Is it doing the same for you?

Adam: Sure. I guess. Uh, for a while. Gives me something to get revved up about. It’s a distraction for a little bit. But, you know, there’s no way around it. I still go home at the end of the day, and, um, feel empty.

Sally: Well, you just have to keep finding ways to fill yourself up.

Adam: Like what?

Sally: I don’t know. I mean, that’s something you’re gonna have to figure out. For me, uh, I went to see dr. Chandler for checkup and I… went through every drawer and closet in my room. And I gathered all my maternity clothes and all the little pink baby things.

Adam: And what– did you throw them away?

Sally: I donated them. You know, and I have to say that it really was satisfying knowing that I can actually give it to someone who could use them, since I can’t anymore.

Adam: Can’t– that didn’t make this loss all the more real?

Sally: It is real, adam. As much as I hate it and as much as it hurts, it’s a part of my reality. And it’s a part of yours, too.

Adam: Look, I want to talk to you about this at some point, but not– not right now. I just– this isn’t the time.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Okay. Yeah. I see, so you… prod me to open up, but when I try and do the same to you, you just shut me down?

Adam: Listen, I’m not shutting you down. I’m just saying– I’m just saying not now, okay? You’ve– you’ve said that you’ve managed to make our loss part of your reality and that you’ve started to heal, and that makes me happy. I’m thankful that you’ve been able to… raise yourself to that– that emotional level, but I’m just– I’m not there yet. And if that makes me not strong enough to face it or not man enough to face it yet, well… it’s the only reality that I’m living with at this point.

Sally: I’m really sorry, adam. If and when… you are ready to talk about it… [ Sniffles ] …You know where to find me. And I will listen.

Phyllis: We have a long history of hating each other. That is a fact, christine. But where my daughter is concerned–

Christine: Your daughter aided and abetted a wanted fugitive. That’s a felony and I’m the D.A. This has nothing to do with our past history and everything to do with my sworn obligation to prosecute criminals.

Phyllis: My daughter was grieving the loss of her mother that she thought was dead, but that wasn’t true. This is a very complicated situation.

Christine: Yeah, yeah, it’s complicated. I’ll give you that.

Phyllis: Listen, this is on me. You know this is on me, and I own that, I own that. I faked my death and I came back into town. I put my daughter in an insane situation. She made some mistakes, she made some– some bad judgment calls, but it was to protect her innocent mother and that is it. What would you do in that situation? Don’t you dare send her to prison. I swear, that is not justice. That is not justice.

Christine: Okay, listen. Why don’t you and I make a deal?

Phyllis: What are you talking about?

Christine: We both know you’re not innocent. How about we start with that?

Phyllis: I’m not agreeing to that.

Christine: You drop your not guilty plea, okay? That way, we avoid a trial. You own up to what you did, you accept the sentence and you waive your appeals.

Phyllis: And?

Christine: I might be persuaded not to pursue charges against summer. Having triplets is…

Nikki: I hope our lunch wasn’t too painful for you.

Nate: I’m glad we did it. And I’m glad you forced my hand. Clarifying for you where I stand with victoria helped me clarify it for myself, too. So, thank you for that. And I meant every word I said to you, nikki.

Nikki: Oh, I don’t doubt that, but let’s face it, your run-in with elena wasn’t exactly confidence inducing.

Nate: I’m sorry you had to see that. But that had nothing to do with victoria and me. What she and I have, what we’re building is so much deeper, so much more significant. There’s just no comparison.

Nikki: Well, actions speak louder than words.

Nate: Couldn’t agree more with you.

Nikki: Victoria has been through more in her life than you will ever know. Nobody deserves a solid, transparent, loving relationship more than she does. Now, if you are the man that can give her that, and victoria and katie and johnny can count on you to be there for the long haul, well, then you’re looking at your new best friend.

Nate: That’s the plan.

Nikki: But if my daughter turns out to be your next amanda or your next elena… you’re looking at your worst nightmare.

[ Adam sighing ]

[ Sally sighing ]

Tucker: Hello, ladies.

Christine: Tucker. Talk to heather. Have her get back to me by the end of the week.

Tucker: What was that about?

Phyllis: Nothing I can’t handle.

Tucker: Hey, annie. A scotch neat, please. Phyllis?

Phyllis: Scotch neat.

Tucker: I got to tell you, phyllis, I really admire how cool you manage to stay, even when you’re cornered. Thank you.

Phyllis: Meeting of the minds.

Tucker: You wanted to see me.

Phyllis: Yeah, I did.

Tucker: About your missing star witness?

Phyllis: My guess is he won’t stay missing for long.

Tucker: Have I been vague? He’s going to be missing as long as I say he’ll be missing. Unless, of course, you have a counteroffer that won’t bore me.

Phyllis: Oh, I definitely, have a counteroffer that won’t bore you.

Tucker: Okay. Let’s pretend, and I can’t emphasize that word strongly enough, I were to accept your counteroffer, what then?

Phyllis: Well, what then is you produce carson and… as he’s my only witness that will exonerate me, heather and I will put him in our own protective custody.

Tucker: In exchange for…

Phyllis: Me keeping my mouth shut.

Tucker: About?

Phyllis: A certain recording label that decided to protect their star recording artist in his very lucrative tour by covering up his statutory rape of several underaged girls.

Tucker: I’m not certain that I am familiar with whatever the hell it is you’re talking about, phyllis.

Phyllis: Oh, no? Allow me to refresh your memory, tucker. A certain email from audra charles to tucker mccall. I quote… “singer problem remedied, hands clean.”

Sally: Did you check in at home?

Nick: Yup. Christian’s up and raring to go. I have a meeting with sharon and adam later, but I’m gonna cruise home first and spend a little time with my boy.

Sally: I’m sure he will appreciate that. I also would like to express my gratitude.

Nick: Oh, yeah?

Sally: Mm-hmm. Thank you.

Nick: You’re welcome. For what?

Sally: Just for being here and spending the night.

Nick: Oh, right. Well, it wasn’t my first sleepover.

Sally: Yes, I know. But after recent events, I just, you know, wanted to practice gratitude for the great things in my life and one of those things is waking up next to you.

Nick: Right back at you.

Sally: So, before you go, I would like to ask you something.

Nick: Anything.

Sally: Victor’s offer, for me to work at newman. I know we did not get into it last night, but I really would like to know what you think.

Victor: Hello, jill. I just want you to know that the celebration for neil arranged by lily and devon was wonderful. I mean, just very moving and I’m sure you wish you had been there.

Jill: God, I think of him all the time. He is so very missed, victor. But I like to think of him and katherine up in heaven, swapping stories and gossiping about the rest of us.

Victor: Ha!

Jill: Okay. Tell me the real reason you called.

Victor: Well, I wanted to inform you that I have made an offer to sally spectra, offered her a more permanent job at newman enterprises. Far more lucrative than that freelance work she’s doing at chancellor-winters.

Jill: Well, thank you so much for the heads up. I have a call with lily later today and I suppose I’ll just have to tell her that we have to come up with a contingency plan.

Victor: Don’t you worry about that, all right? I already have hired a very good design firm. They will do the work that sally spectra was contracted to do, okay? So don’t you worry about a thing.

Jill: Wait just one minute. I thought you didn’t trust sally. As a matter of fact, you dissuaded me from working with her by means of a dossier you sent me of miss spectra’s greatest hits.

Victor: Well, you know, sometimes things change. I’ve decided I need to keep her closer to the family.

Jill: Mm-hmm. You just want to keep a watchful eye on her, don’t you?

[ Victor chuckling ]

[ Knocking on door ]

Audra: Good morning.

Nate: Audra. Um, this is a surprise.

Audra: Um, yeah, I saw this delivered for you downstairs and thought i should bring it up myself. New suit?

Nate: Seemed fitting that I dressed the part given the week ahead.

Audra: Oh, yeah, I understand. Um, you know, this is a big moment for you. Victoria and nikki are out of town and you’re left to fill the void.

Nate: It’s an honor to be asked to step in.

Audra: You know, it’s admirable just how much you’ve accomplished in such a short period of time.

Nate: Thanks.

Audra: Yeah.

Nate: Well, uh, if you don’t mind, I do have a schedule to stick to.

Audra: Yeah. Um, I will see you at the office. Oh, and, uh, nate, if I haven’t said it already, um, look, I’m really happy for you.

Nate: Thank you, audra.

Jack: Thank you for coming by on short notice.

Billy: It sounded urgent.

Diane: Yes. Well, jack and I were talking last night and I have an idea about how to protect jabot. I’ve given it a lot of thought and I would like for the two of you to give it some consideration.

Jack: We are all ears.

Billy: Please, let’s hear it.

Diane: Here, have a seat. Ashley and tucker think they’re walking away with half of the company. So we need to lure them into a false sense of security that that might actually happen. So to do that, the two of you need to pretend to have a falling out. A huge fight. Something fierce and public that ashley and tucker will witness.

Billy: That shouldn’t be difficult. They know I don’t trust him.

Diane: See, they’re probably already expecting it.

Billy: I see the angle. Make them believe that I could be an ally. I get inside and I destroy them from within. Tide is busting laundry’s biggest myth…

Billy: Yeah. This could work.

Diane: Jack?

Jack: I still have my concerns.

Billy: Yeah? Why is that? Because you don’t think i can pull it off, jack?

Jack: No. Not at all. I don’t like putting you in an untenable situation. Billy, I admire how you have turned your life around. But disrupting a company and pretending to fail, that could stigmatize you in the business world at large.

Billy: Okay. Well, I’m not worried about my reputation or what the public thinks about me, okay? Especially not when it comes to protecting our family. Our father’s legacy, jabot’s legacy.

Jack: Dad would be very proud of you for stepping up like this.

Billy: Well, it’s not like I’m falling back in my old ways, right? I’m doing what’s necessary to make sure that this doesn’t get out of hand and the company suffers.

Diane: Exactly. This is the best way we can control the narrative. I wish it hadn’t come to this, but I really don’t see another option.

Billy: Look, at the very least, I get inside and i see what they plan next.

Jack: You do realize once we start this, there is no turning back.

Billy: We’ve given ashley every opportunity to back down. She hasn’t taken them.

Jack: You know what? You’re absolutely right. And I am not going to let diane be a victim of ashley’s hate campaign and have to leave jabot.

Billy: So, that’s it? That’s the plan. For better or worse.

Nick: I don’t think I can give you a clear answer as to what I think you should do about my dad’s offer.

Sally: But you must have an opinion. Please don’t hold back.

Nick: Okay. I’m surprised you would even consider it. I mean, you were pretty adamant about never working for a newman again.

Sally: That is true. But I realize now that some of my motivation… actually, most of it, was related to you.

Nick: What do you mean?

Sally: Well, it was about you and adam and my relationship with both of you. You know, I thought that working for a newman would further complicate an already strange situation, but a lot has changed since then.

Nick: Because of ava.

Sally: Yeah. Before, when I mentioned not working for a newman, I was getting ready to have a baby with adam while still in a relationship with you. But yeah, losing ava has changed that dynamic all around.

Nick: You suffered a terrible loss. You should take as much time as you need before you decide what you want to do moving forward.

Sally: I just feel like at this point, I have to be practical. You know, and it just seems like victor’s offer is– is a much better career move than my opportunity at chancellor-winters.

Nick: And you think you could do that to jill and lily? Turn your back on them just because my dad’s offering you a better deal?

Sally: That’s one of my considerations.

Nick: And more importantly, do you think you can trust my dad enough to be willing to take the risk to work for him?

Adam: Hey, nate.

Nate: Morning, adam.

Adam: That’s a nice suit. Heard through the grapevine that, uh, it’s a pretty big day for you at newman. Steering the ship while the boss is out of town.

Nate: Just grateful for the opportunity.

Adam: Hm. I am sure that you are. You have certainly been busy continuing to maneuver your way into the inner circle. Good luck.

Nate: You know, I found out from victoria you’re interested in absorbing newman media into your new company.

[ Adam clearing throat]

Adam: Well, yeah, it’s, uh, a logical move now that we’re all under the newman enterprise umbrella. Newman media’s a standalone, kind of seems redundant with what I’m planning to accomplish.

Nate: Newman media is a powerhouse of the two. Mccall’s company needs a ton of work to be fit enough face off against us.

Adam: Well, I wouldn’t be so sure about that.

Nate: Oh, I’m more than sure. What you’re planning would never happen. The parts of your body that collagen supports:

Sally: This is a difficult situation for me to be in. You know, of course, I’m wary of victor’s intentions and no, I am not eager to let jill down, but ultimately, I– i have to figure out what the best deal is for me and chloe.

Nick: And you’re sure you’re clear what that is?

Sally: Well, victor’s offer gives us much more than the slow build at chancellor-winters. In any other scenario, this would be a dream job. It’s everything that chloe and I are looking for with a lot more reach.

Nick: Yeah, but it’s never that simple when it comes to my dad.

Sally: Hm. Well, there is another motivation in all this.

Nick: What’s that?

Sally: The fact that victor offered me this position himself, I mean, means a lot to me. I’m not victor’s favorite person. I may never be, but if I have the option, I would love to be able to turn his opinion around.

Nick: He’s a tough nut to crack. Some would say impossible. And the way he feels about you is not personal.

Sally: Yeah, but I’m not just thinking about myself. I’m thinking about you. Victor is your dad and I’m in your life and you’re important to me. I just don’t feel good being out of his favor.

Nick: The only thing that matters is how we feel about each other. You don’t have to worry about my dad.

Sally: I would love to be able to trust victor. And I really want him to be able to trust me. I don’t know, I’m just more than usually confused.

Nick: Well, you make sense to me. That’s got to count for something.

[ Sally chuckling ]

Sally: Yeah. I mean, who knows? Honestly, maybe victor isn’t even sincere. Maybe this is just another test. You know, like when he offered to send me anywhere in the world career-wise.

Nick: But your baby had to stay in genoa city.

Sally: Yeah. I mean, there could be a play that I don’t even see coming. Some manipulation of some sort.

Nick: There’s always a chance that’ll be the case with my father. Even when he’s offering something good.

Diane: The crucial part is convincing ashley and tucker that the fight between the two of you is legitimate.

Billy: That’s not gonna be hard. We’ve had bad blood in the past, right?

Jack: You have been upfront with ashley recently that if she and I do battle, you’re on my side.

Billy: I have similar concerns to what ashley is feeling right now about diane’s promotion and the corresponding press release that blindsided us all. And the fact that jack, we have a volatile past. Look, at the end of the day, all I have to say is that you’re obsessed with diane at the expense of the company.

Jack: It is one thing to sell a fight. It is quite another to get ashley and tucker to take you into their confidence.

Billy: Then I take it a step further and I give them false information about jabot’s future, like factory streamlining and product design. I give them whatever they need to make it sound like I’m helping their company.

Jack: Yeah, that way they’re indebted to you. Billy, I gotta say this, promise me you won’t get sucked in for real when they offer you a position of power. I know how tempting it can be.

Billy: Like I said, it’s gonna be so easy to be pissed off at you, jack. If you don’t trust me, why are we having this conversation?

Victor: Nate, my man. Have a seat. Looking sharp.

Nate: Thanks, victor.

[ Victor chuckling ]

Victor: I was just told by nikki that she and victoria are on the way to their destination.

Nate: Yes, victoria texted me this morning before they took off. We’re supposed to touch base later.

Victor: Feeling good?

Nate: Feeling great. Ready to get to work.

Victor: Yeah. Glad to hear that. I just wanted to make a few things clear before you embark upon the day to day for nikki and victoria.

Nate: Of course.

Victor: Don’t get too comfortable in that big chair, you know.

Nate: I’m just here to hold down the fort and stay the course.

Victor: Good.

Nate: I will also follow through with some projects victoria and i discussed setting in motion.

Victor: Excellent. Now, nate, I’ve been very upfront about admiring your ambition and your drive to succeed. And I don’t agree with nicholas that you’re doing this purely out of self-interest and I don’t agree with him when he says that you might be a threat to the company.

Nate: I’m relieved to hear that’s still the case.

Victor: Having said that, I don’t know what the future holds. But one thing I can tell you. Newman enterprise will never be led by anyone but a newman. I’m telling you this because that has been a sticking point in the past, including with neil.

Nate: I wasn’t aware of that.

Victor: Yeah. And because of the history, I’ve decided to avoid any kind of confusion. So therefore, I am going to tell you that you would be working with victoria and nikki.

Nate: I appreciate you thinking of me and I’m looking forward to working alongside both of them.

Victor: Good. Just in case you had some, you know, grandiose ideas about the future. If that is the case, I would suggest you disabuse yourself of those fantasies, okay? Because it ain’t gonna happen.

Adam: Hi.

Sally: Hi. Uh, nick told me you came by last night.

Adam: Uh, yeah. I just– I heard that you were back in town from seeing your family. How’s coco and grams?

Sally: They’re good. Yeah, they were asking about you and… how are you doing?

Adam: Hm. Well, I– I appreciate that. Hope it helped. I hope you’re feeling a bit better.

Sally: It did. Yeah, I, you know, just needed a break for a minute, a little reset. But yeah, seeing them helped put things into perspective. So, uh is that why you came by last night? Just to see how I was doing?

Adam: No. Um, but by the time nick arrived, I knew that it– it was a mistake. I assumed that you were in your room and you were just ignoring me and you opened the door to nick and it was, um, just me that you didn’t want to see. To 50 years with my best friend.

Sally: I was already in bed last night when i heard you call my name. It– it wasn’t personal. I wasn’t avoiding you.

[ Sally sighing ] Anyway, why… did you come by last night? You said it was a mistake. What did you want to talk about?

Adam: Do you want to sit down? I, um, I had a bad encounter with chance last night and he said some things that riled me up and I kind of lashed out at him. So, my instinct was to come find you and, you know, in the hopes of you calming me down. Old habits die hard.

Sally: I thought you’d let go.

Adam: I thought I did too, but I walked away last night instead of forcing the issue. So that has to count for something, doesn’t it?

Sally: Yes, I can give you props for that. While I was away, I really got to talk to my family about everything that I went through during my pregnancy. The preeclampsia risk and the night that you took me to the hospital because I was in so much pain. And elena telling me that my symptoms were life threatening. Falling unconscious, and the danger for me and the baby and the position that you were put in having to choose between us. I told them how devastated I was when I woke up and found out that she was gone and how angry I was at you when I realized the choice that you had made.

Adam: It’s understandable, okay? You– you were grieving.

Sally: But so were you. Look, coco and my grams thought that maybe I should be a little less harsh with you. And I agree.

Adam: Well, I think that is very kind.

Sally: We both lost something the night ava died. But despite all of that, you are doing really well, you have an opportunity to start anew. So do I.

[ Sally sighing ] Yet, somehow you still look for and attract reasons to be upset. Why is that?

Adam: I wish I knew the answer to that question. My life would be a lot simpler and more peaceful. But yes, things are going relatively well. I mean, I have three months to turn around two failing companies with sharon and nick.

Sally: It’s a solid team.

Adam: It’s their mission to make sure that I stay on the straight and narrow. Which is a path I’m not very comfortable going down.

Billy: Let’s just be very honest and– and very clear. Your instinct when you think of me is to always think the worst.

Diane: Jack, wait. Let’s just take a step back, okay?

Jack: That won’t be necessary, billy. I apologize for offending you. I know you are not the person you once were. I just don’t want to put you at any risk of falling backwards.

[ Billy scoffing ]

Billy: Well, that’s not gonna happen, okay? You can count on it.

Jack: I have faith in you. It’s just that right now, I have to look at every angle, every possible pitfall of putting this action in motion.

Billy: Yeah, of course we do. I mean that goes without saying, right? We need to be clear-eyed and we need to understand the risk.

Jack: And frankly, I’m angry and frustrated that we’re in this position in the first place.

Billy: Good. Then use it in our upcoming battle and I’ll use the indignation I feel knowing that you don’t really trust me.

Jack: Fine. We’ll have no problem coming up with an argument.

Diane: All right. Guys! Come on, this is not supposed to be for real. The last thing I want is for my idea to actually split the two of you apart. I– I already feel horribly that I’ve caused this rift between you and ashley. The last thing we need is another family war.

Nick: Trying it on for size?

Nate: Hello, nick.

Nick: Where’s vic? I was under the impression she was still running the family’s company.

Nate: Your sister and mother were called out of town on an emergency business meeting. Victoria asked me to step in and handle things while they’re gone.

Nick: I bet you didn’t hesitate to agree, huh? I’m gonna pull over and stretch my legs.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Nate: Were you expecting me to turn down a request from my boss?

Nick: I think you do whatever it takes to fuel your own ambition.

Nate: All right. Enough. I’ve tried to reason with you and find common ground, but frankly, I’m tired of being on the receiving end of your constant attacks. All you have for me are accusations of ambition and untrustworthiness.

Nick: I call it like I see it.

Nate: Then, be honest. What will it take to knock this massive chip off your shoulder? I have the support of victoria and now the backing of victor. I’m not gonna apologize for my rise here.

Nick: Your rise at my expense.

Nate: Are you really just so bitter over the fact that victor forced you out and sent you to work with your brother?

Nick: My role in my family’s company is none of your concern.

Nate: Then what is it, nick? Do you see everything as a threat or a slight? I can’t believe that all of this is only about your distrust of me. What is really going on here, nick? Hm? There’s gotta be something working here at a deeper level.

Nick: Man, don’t try to psychoanalyze me.

Nate: Here’s my two cents anyway. I think you fell out of favor in your own family and you’re taking it out on me. My drive and ambition has led me to where I’m at and your lack of both has landed you where you are.

Nick: I’m warning you. You better quit testing me.

Nate: I’m just saying. You have a problem, but it’s not mine to solve, so stop taking it out on me. Figure it out and leave me alone to do the job your sister and father expect me to do.

Billy: You don’t need to worry about that. Jack and I will handle it. It’s a risk that I’m willing to take for the greater good. And we’ll keep each other in check, correct?

Jack: This is as good a plan as any, I suppose.

Diane: It’s a very good plan, as long as you two can pull it off.

Billy: It’s the best plan we got. No doubt about that. Thank you for bringing it up. I’m gonna go take care of a few things. I’ll be in contact with you about the time and place for our upcoming display of anger.

Jack: I’ll wait to hear from you.

[ Diane sighing ]

Diane: And with any luck, this will be the beginning and the end of this terrible family battle.

Sally: You know, I think it might be good for you to take the straight and narrow path. If you can collaborate with others and try not to see nick as the enemy, it could work.

Adam: Oh, of course you would say that because you’re in love with nick. I mean, you are in love, right?

Sally: Do you… really want to know the answer to that question? ‘Cause my affection for nick is pretty obvious.

Adam: Affection is a lot different than love.

Sally: I mean, does it do you any good to hear the words, for me to say it? Because I will, if that’s what it takes.

Adam: What about nick? I’m– I’m actually, I’m more curious to see where he is, uh, emotionally. Has he told you that he loves you?

Sally: Adam, you are veering into rough water.

Adam: Okay, you’re right. I’m sorry. Honestly, I’m just happy that you’re speaking to me about anything. You know, I know how angry and how hurt you were after we lost our baby, rightfully so. So, I have to be careful not to overstep or push. I don’t wanna to veer off the path that we’re on towards friendship. We’re making a lot of progress.

Sally: Well, we still have a long way to go. But, I do have some news to share of my own. Seems as though victor is changing his opinion of me.

Adam: Congratulations.

Sally: Yeah. He offered me a design job at newman.

Adam: That is quite a pivot.

Sally: Yeah, nick seems quite suspicious of it.

Adam: Hm. Well, we both know our father well. Wait, are you asking for my advice on this?

Sally: Maybe I am.

Diane: I was talking to harrison the other day about our upcoming wedding. Ah, thank you. I asked him if he was excited. He wanted to know if there’d be cake and dancing.

Jack: Yeah, the kid’s got his priorities straight.

Diane: Mm. I told him he could be a cake tester and he’s already insisting that he gets to wear comfy shoes with his suit. I, uh, I was kind of hoping that talking about our grandson would distract you, but I can see that things are still weighing on you.

Jack: You know, I’m still just conflicted about going through with this. Despite everything that ashley’s done, I just… no part of me takes any joy in the idea of deceiving her and playing her emotions and–

Diane: Well, of course not. She’s your sister and you love her.

Jack: That said, there was real potential in this plan. It’s one way to stop ashley and tucker in their tracks, but… I hate that we’re even in this situation and I hate the effect that it’s had on you.

Diane: Me?

Jack: I know you blame yourself for this rift between ashley and me. You feel you need to fix that. You need to stop thinking that way. This is on ashley. It’s her failing that she can’t see how much you have changed.

Diane: Well, ashley’s just trying to be protective. She’s afraid that I’ll hurt you, but I will not let her hurt your family company.

Jack: Look at you. Still willing to fight for what you believe in. You are an inspiration. You make me want to fight too. I love you so much.

Diane: I love you, too.

Jack: In fact, I have an idea.

Adam: Okay. Well, victor never does anything without some sort of self-serving agenda. So while it is true, he probably is sorry about the loss of our child, it’s most likely he just wants to keep you around so he can keep an eye on you.

Sally: Nick suspects the same thing. It’s ironic more often than not. You two are on the same page when deciphering your father’s actions and words.

Adam: It’s maddening, isn’t it?

Nick: What’s going on?

Adam: Uh, I’m just here early for our meeting with sharon. She’s on her way, so she should be here soon.

Sally: Well, I will leave you two to get to work. But before I go, I think you both should know that I have made a decision.

Nick: What’s that?

Sally: I am going to give victor the benefit of the doubt. Pending a conversation with chloe, I am going to consider taking victor up on his offer.

Nate: I really I am glad you landed safely and are getting settled in. We have a few things to hammer here, but all is going well at the office. I’m holding down the fort. Don’t worry about anything, just blow them away in the meeting.

[ Nate chuckling ] They won’t know what hit him. Enjoy the time with your mom, victoria. I’ll text you later. Bye.

Billy: Nate.

Nate: Billy.

Billy: Hey, sorry, I couldn’t help but overhear your conversation. It’s remarkable.

Nate: I don’t know what you’re talking about. It’s just impressive, your ability to combine business and pleasure where victoria’s concerned.

Nate: If I recall correctly, you were able to do the same with lily at chancellor-winters. At the end of your time there, you were dating the boss and didn’t seem to have a problem with that. Yet, you take issue with me doing the same? I can only assume that’s jealousy.

Billy: I’m just making a comment.

Nate: Oh, no. I think there’s more to it. I would completely understand if you felt a twinge of loss when it comes to victoria. She is a remarkable woman.

Billy: Yeah, she is indeed. She’s the mother of my children. So, I’m always gonna watch out for her.

Nate: Victoria doesn’t need protection. Certainly not from me. Frankly, anyone who thinks she needs coddling really never knew her at all.

Nate: Don’t worry about countering. The terms we sent came from top management, so there’s no adjusting them. Don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I’m your point person until victoria’s return. You too. Thanks, pat.

Audra: Wow. That suit is clearly working for you. I’m impressed with how easily you’ve taken the reins.

Nate: It does seem to come rather naturally, but today hasn’t been entirely smooth.

Audra: In what way?

Nate: Nick came by. He wasn’t aware I’ve been put in charge and as you know, he’s bitter and resistant to my presence here.

Audra: Yeah, I mean, I– I would imagine that your rapid rise to the top, it could be frustrating to him.

Nate: I also had a conversation with victor, where he made it clear a non-newman will never take over the ceo position.

Audra: I mean, I get the feeling, you know. Uh, family is everything to victor.

Nate: Despite that, I’m determined to make the most of my time here and I won’t let victoria down.

Audra: Victoria is clearly victor’s golden child. So if she wants you by her side, there’s nowhere else you should be.

Nate: I plan to continue to make myself indispensable to her.

Audra: Just don’t get complacent. And you know, this is just the beginning and the next step is clear. You must solidify your relationship with victoria. Take things to the next level.

Sally: I know you have mixed feelings about me working for your father, but I feel like this is the best decision. I need a new focus and a new direction.

Nick: Okay. Um, if that’s your decision, obviously, I respect it. I do have to ask though, did adam affect this decision one way or the other?

Sally: I did ask him his opinion and he actually shared your concerns. You two are more alike than you think. Look, both of you helped me make an informed decision and I now see that this could be great for my career and a personal challenge as well.

Diane: Wait, are you going to continue to tease me? What, keep me in suspense?

Jack: I don’t want to wait ’til september to marry you.

Diane: Oh, well, okay. I can shuffle things around.

Jack: No, no, we can have a big fancy celebration of friends and family in the fall. Right now, I wanna go to the justice of the peace and make you mrs. Jack abbott.

Diane: What? Are– are you serious? Are you– you’re crazy!

Jack: I am crazy about you. I mean it, let’s do this now. Let’s show the whole world how in love we are and that nothing, nothing will bring us down.

[ Diane exclaiming ]

Why do dermatologists

choose dove?

Summer: You know, despite everything that’s been going on, I really do appreciate your kindness towards me. I know that I’m not always the easiest person to deal with.

Chance: Ooh. No, you, uh, you have your moments. I’m happy to be there for you, though, any way I can.

Chelsea: Hey. I’m not late, am I?

Summer: Uh, no, not at all.

Chelsea: Are you sure? I can give you guys a minute.

Chance: No, I was just saying hi. I’ve got to run anyways.

Summer: Hey, thanks for trying to cheer me up.

Chance: Any time.

Chelsea: Hey.

Chance: Good to see you.

Chelsea: Good to see you.

[ Both sighing ] That chance. He’s one of the good guys. He was actually a really good influence on adam not too long ago, and he was always such a great friend to rey.

Summer: Well, I will take all the friends that I can get right now.

Chelsea: Hm. Well, I’d like to consider myself one of them. I mean, I know our working relationship just started, but I feel like we’ve built a lot of trust there. Oh, that’s your cue that if you want to tell me something personal I’m here to listen.

Summer: Oh, okay. [ Laughs ] Uh, I guess I’m just still feeling conflicted. You know, I would really love for kyle to forgive me and I would love to be able to find a way to forgive him for cheating on me.

Chelsea: I can’t imagine any of that is easy for you.

Summer: No. I know that you recommended letting go, but I just– I don’t know if that’s possible. After everything that we’ve been through, I mean, isn’t it worth it to try to save our marriage? I– I still love kyle. How do I just walk away from that?

Lauren: Thank you.

Phyllis: I have a confession to make.

Lauren: Oh, god. I don’t think I can take another one.

Phyllis: All right. Even heather won’t be able to save me if I lose my star witness. And I’m having to be nice to tucker so that carson doesn’t disappear. It’s proving to be very challenging.

Lauren: Michael told me about this deal with tucker and I think it’s a very tricky situation. He’s very sketchy and shady.

Phyllis: Yeah. He– I’m under his thumb and I want to gag.

Lauren: Yeah, well, don’t you give up because if you get jack’s forgiveness, it’ll be worth it.

Phyllis: I saw jack. It wasn’t nice.

Lauren: He will come around. He has a soft spot for you and always has.

Phyllis: I think I killed it this time.

Lauren: No, no, do not give up trying. I don’t love the fact that tucker has his hooks in you, but actually, getting jack and kyle’s forgiveness is going to work in your favor, and hopefully summer’S. So, you do this for you, not tucker.

Diane: Kyle! Thank you so much for meeting us.

Kyle: Sure thing. What’s up?

Diane: Well, your father and i are getting married today!

Kyle: What?

Diane: Yeah!

Jack: We’re heading to the courthouse shortly and we would like you to be there and be part of it with us.

Diane: Yeah.

Kyle: Wow, um… I, uh, didn’t see that coming. Uh… why the rush?

Jack: We want to put any and everyone’s doubts to rest and the truth is, I don’t want to spend another day not married to your beautiful mother.

Diane: Aw.

[ Sighing ] Kyle, you seem a little iffy about this, but trust me, you don’t have to worry. This is a good thing.

Kyle: I’m trying to keep up with the two of you. To follow your lead.

Jack: You know, I thought you were fully on board with our getting back together.

Kyle: No, dad, I am, but I can’t help but feel like outside forces are motivating a move like this. I mean, it seems unwise to charge into something so… important and life-changing and… what’s this really all about? Where are you going?

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Jack: Yes, there are other factors at play in us getting married today, but I am deeply in love with your mother and I want to make a point of that to ashley and anyone else who doubts my sincerity.

Kyle: Yeah. Billy told me the fight between you and ashley hadn’t ended, despite aunt traci’s attempt at a truce. So once again, I’m the last to find out about what’s going on in my family.

Jack: No, this is not about exclusion. You have had your own problems to deal with. And ashley is not the principal factor in us getting married. Our love is.

Diane: Yeah. Kyle, please. Won’t you join us in a celebration of that?

[ Diane sighing ]

Kyle: Um… I’m afraid I’m going to have to bow out. I have back to back meetings at newman media all afternoon and into the evening.

Diane: I’m sorry to hear that.

Kyle: I mean, you two did spring this on me at the last minute. I was thinking september for your wedding. Wasn’t that the plan? Does that even still stand?

Diane: No, we are going to have a reception then for all of our loved ones. But, kyle, come on. Can’t you just rearrange your schedule for today? We– we would love to have our son beside us.

Tucker: Hey.

Ashley: Hi.

Tucker: I have an update for you.

Ashley: Oh, I have an update. Things have gotten a lot worse.

Tucker: Really?

Ashley: Yeah.

Tucker: They tend to do that.

Ashley: And this–

Billy: Hey.

Tucker: Hey, billy. How are you?

Ashley: Hi.

Billy: I’m okay. Uh, listen, um, I thought I should tell you because, well, it’s not fun to be left in the dark, as I’ve found out a few occasions lately, but, uh, jack and diane are getting married today in a civil ceremony.

Ashley: Yeah, I heard. Diane told me earlier.

Tucker: Oh, wow.

Billy: Okay.

Tucker: I’m tearing up.

Billy: As you know that I’ve been supportive of jack, but I think he’s crossing the line with this move.

Ashley: Really? You never thought diane was a threat before.

Billy: I mean, he’s rushing into this, clearly, and he’s not taking any steps to protect himself. I guarantee you he doesn’t have a prenup, and I think we can all agree that can be very dangerous.

Tucker: Do you even care?

Billy: He’s my brother, tucker, so yeah, I care. But I would be lying if I said this rush to the altar doesn’t have me questioning everything else now, too.

Ashley: Yeah, well, diane told me it was jack’s idea, but I don’t believe her.

Billy: I agree. I think diane is the mastermind. But jack didn’t say anything about diane’s promotion, he didn’t say anything about pushing kyle from of marchetti, so I am worried about jabot.

Ashley: Oh, my god. Oh, god, this is such a relief. So, you finally see it? You really see it? I mean, jack is an idiot.

Chelsea: I’ll admit walking away from adam was not easy for me. I tried to save our marriage past the point of it making sense. I mean, it didn’t work out for us, but we were also in a very different situation, facing different things than what you and kyle are dealing with.

Summer: Kyle and I were good. We were so good. Un– until we weren’T.

Chelsea: I see. I do know, I mean, that you can’t force someone to stay with you.

Summer: I know. The way I see it, though is that he betrayed me by sleeping with another woman and I still love him and I want to be with him. I guess I just don’t really know if he feels that way about me.

Chelsea: Well, maybe he’s just too hurt to show it.

Summer: I have loved him for so long. I mean, he’s a part of me. He’s my other half. I just– I don’t understand. Like, how can he not love me back just as much?

Chelsea: I’m really sorry you’re going through all this.

Summer: Uh, you know what? This– this isn’t fair to you. You shouldn’t have to deal with my personal problems. And I’ve already spent too much time thinking about things that I can’t control, so let’s just shift gears. Let’s, uh, let’s get to work.

[ Summer sighing ] Martial arts is my passion. With cirkul, your water is deliciously flavored at the turn of a dial, with zero sugar and zero calories. And cirkul has over 40 flavors, so your water can be as unique as you are. Try cirkul at drinkcirkul.Com hey, dad. I got an a on my book report.

Phyllis: I know it’s not going to be easy with jack. Um, it’s not something I can just wave away.

Lauren: Well, I think seeking forgiveness is going to be good for you because you can move forward. And if you have jack and kyle’s acceptance, you are free of tucker, and hopefully these charges against you. And then you can get back to your life.

Phyllis: Yeah. I want to get back to my life.

Lauren: Then you should focus on that.

Phyllis: I want to start a new life, you know? Just create something new with my kids and make it up to all my friends that I hurt.

Lauren: Yes. You focus on that.

Phyllis: I don’t trust tucker.

Lauren: And you shouldn’T.

Phyllis: But I need some leverage, you know what I mean? Something over him so I can protect myself in case, you know, he decides to, uh, make carson disappear, you know what I mean? He keeps on threatening me.

Lauren: It never hurts to take precautions against someone like mccall. I want you to know I’ll be with you every step of the way, but you have got to keep heather in the loop. You have got to tell her everything that you are doing because she is your best chance at freedom.

Summer: Well, everyone at marchetti is already super impressed with you. I mean, they already knew your history and your creative vision in the fashion industry, but I really do feel like you have stepped into the creative director role with a lot of ease.

Chelsea: Well, thank you. Billy and i were just talking about it. It does feel like things have fallen into place.

Summer: Well, as you’re still getting settled, just feel free to ask me any questions. Or if you have ideas about the business structure, creative, anything, I– I want to hear it.

Chelsea: I mean, I have tons of ideas how we can maximize our potential.

Summer: Okay, great! I mean, that’s exactly why I hired you. Chelsea, I really do think you and I working together, we’re going to see record growth at marchetti.

[ Chelsea chuckling ]

Chelsea: Can i tell you something? Just a personal observation.

Summer: Yeah, sure.

Chelsea: I think you’re a lot stronger than you give yourself credit for. I mean, I truly feel like you’re going to find a way to be move on and be happy.

Kyle: I wish I could, but I can’T. In fact, I have to head back to the office.

Jack: Kyle, it’s a civil ceremony. It won’t take that long.

Kyle: And dad, I hope it goes well. Congratulations. See you later.

Diane: Well, that’s not how I thought that conversation would go.

Jack: You know what? He’s being diligent and responsible in his new job at newman media.

Diane: No, no, I think there’s more going on. Ever since this whole ordeal with summer, he’s been just shut down emotionally and, I don’t know, maybe seeing two people exchange vows of lasting love is just, um, too much for him right now.

Jack: You know what? I can’t argue with you there. I know from experience that when you shut out that part of your heart, you don’t always make the wisest decisions.

Billy: This quickie wedding just proves your point that jack is not thinking clearly and he’s lost his mind because of diane and it’s got me concerned. Frankly, I’m angry. I don’t want you two to go to war over jabot. I don’t want that. This courthouse wedding is a mistake and it’s a big red flag. Before my doctor and I chose breztri for my copd,

[ Kyle sighing ]

Kyle: Hi. Sorry I’m late.

Audra: Already slacking, huh?

Kyle: Oh, worse. I had to deal with more family drama. I just can’t seem to catch a break these days. I’m sorry. I may not be good company.

Audra: It’s okay. What can I do to help?

Kyle: Hm. Well, can we cancel our afternoon meetings? Because right now I need to get you alone.

[ Summer sighing ]

Chance: Hey, summer. Nice to see you again. You okay?

Summer: Honestly?

[ Summer chuckling ] No. Everybody keeps telling me that I just need to move on, that I need to let go, but I– I don’t know if I could do that. I’ve already lost so much. And yeah, my mom is back, but it’s not the same. I mean, everything is different. I just… I wish that everything could go back to the way that it was.

[ Summer sighing ]

Chance: Yeah.

[ Chance sighing ] You know, sometimes, the best way out is forward.

[ Both panting ]

Audra: Do you trust me? Turn around.

[ Kyle chuckling ]

Phyllis: I mean, tucker’s got to have a weak spot. He has to have a vulnerable spot.

Lauren: I mean, he’s an enigma. For a man who only cared about himself, now seems to actually be caring about others. His son, his grandson, ashley.

Phyllis: He has an agenda. He’s after jabot.

Lauren: Ah. [ Scoffing ] That explains the motivation.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm.

Lauren: So, the situation is inherently precarious. You have got to find his weak link and you go from there.

Phyllis: Right. You know, I’m trying to be honest and aboveboard, but I think I have to tap into og phyllis.

Lauren: Oh, boy.

Phyllis: I think I do. I have no choice. Just this last time. And then I’m going to create my new life, I swear.

Diane: I can’t believe we’re actually doing this! Oh, how did I get so lucky to have such a handsome groom?

Jack: Hey!

Billy: Hey. Excuse me, sorry to interrupt. But, uh, I just ran into tucker and ashley and I was able to bait the situation. Don’t know if they’re going to bite or not, but they are poised, just to let you know.

Jack: Hello. Well, you are both welcome to join us at our civil ceremony.

Tucker: Did you say civil?

[ Laughing ] Civil, my ass.

Ashley: You know what? This just proves what I’ve been saying all along. You have completely lost your mind and thank god, billy finally agrees with me.

Billy: Ashley.

Jack: Wait. Is that true?

Billy: Jack, you’re not– you’re not making this easy, right? I mean, this is mistake. You shouldn’t be going through with this. And honestly, if diane actually loved you as much as she said she does, she would put an end to this now.

Chance: Good morning.

Sharon: Chance! Good morning.

Chance: Hi.

Sharon: What’s in the basket?

Chance: Oh, well, I was wondering if you would join me for a little breakfast in the park. Let me serve you for once. I got everything you need in here, fruit, quiche, you name it, I got it.

Sharon: That sounds… wonderful.

Chance: Look, I know you got a busy schedule, but I would love to spend a little bit more time with you before things get crazy with both of us, because seeing you, sharon, is the best part of my day.

Diane: Ah, good morning, my handsome husband.

[ Chuckling ] Wait a minute. Am I dreaming? Did we really get married?

Jack: Oh, it is not a dream. We are husband and wife, mrs. Abbott.

Diane: Mrs. Abbott. I love the sound of that.

Jack: And I love you. Still feel okay about our courthouse wedding? We can do something bigger, more formal later.

Diane: No, yesterday was perfect. And– and yes, we can have a celebration later for our friends and family, a big party. No, I’m– I’m glad that we didn’t wait any longer to make it official. We got engaged for the first time, what, 25 years ago? [ Laughing ] I think we waited long enough.

Jack: And now, I am never gonna let you go. I want one more glorious moment with my beautiful wife before I face the world, and– and almost certain attack from ashley.

Diane: Well, whatever she or anyone else throws our way, we will tackle it as a team. Okay? Isn’t it nice to know where we’ll be tomorrow and next year? Even a decade from now? Together forever.

Jack: Forever.

[ Diane chuckling ]

Ashley: Hi.

Tucker: Hi.

Ashley: I’m so happy we decided to spend the night here. I’m so sick of the jack and diane show.

Tucker: Thank god one of us had the genius idea to do a little dress rehearsal for our own wedding night.

Ashley: Yeah.

Tucker: Or should I say undress rehearsal.

Ashley: [ Imitates laughter ] So, guess what?

Tucker: What?

Ashley: I had a major realization this morning.

Tucker: Did you now?

Ashley: I’m done.

Tucker: With?

Ashley: Yeah, I’m done trying to protect jack. I’m done, I– I’ve done everything I can, and he’s too far gone, clearly, from his descent into unholy matrimony.

[ Chuckling ] So, I’m finished. I’m not gonna try to protect him anymore. To hell with that. And it’s gonna be every person for themselves.

Tucker: Oh, give us a hug.

Ashley: Okay. Yeah? Right?

[ Tucker sighing ]

[ Ashley chuckling ] You’ve evolved.

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Sharon: Oh, my gosh. I would love to have a breakfast picnic with you, but you know what, I just came in to grab my tablet I left it here last night, and now, I have a meeting with adam, he’s waiting for me.

Chance: Oh, man. Well, I knew I was rolling the dice just showing up like this. Don’t worry about it.

Sharon: You’re so sweet to go to the trouble. I love our time together, too.

Chance: Yeah?

Sharon: Lunch?

Chance: Yeah, sure. I’ll take what I can get.

Ashley: Okay. I’ll be in touch later then.

Chance: Okay.

[ Chance moans ]

[ Sharon giggling ] Good luck.

[ Sighs ] Well, party of one.

Billy: Congratulations, once again.

Jack: Thank you, billy.

Diane: Yeah, thank you. We couldn’t be happier.

Billy: I hope you don’t mind me, uh, you know, disrupting your first morning as a newly married couple, but it’s time to talk corporate espionage.

Jack: No problem. We have a lifetime of wedded bliss to revel in. Uh, what do you got for us?

Billy: Well, I think I made some progress with ashley. She bought into our award-winning performance, and is fully convinced that I’m furious at you for rushing into the wedding with diane.

Diane: We hardly rushed.

Jack: Well, it– it doesn’t matter when or where we got married, she’s gonna think we rushed it, and it is the end of the world.

Diane: And yet, here we are.

Billy: Either way, it was a step in the right direction in order to get her and tucker to trust me. But it’s not gonna be enough. We need to keep it up. In fact, I think we need to escalate a little bit.

Jack: Whatever it takes to get them to let you into their inner circle. To think of you as a co-conspirator that they are plotting with, whatever they’re plotting for jabot and me.

Billy: Get them to change direction from within.

Diane: We really appreciate your willingness to play spy, billy.

Billy: Hm.

Diane: I– I know how much you love your brother, and how much you care about your father’s company.

Billy: Both those things are true. And if I can get a few extra bonus points for wiping that smirk off of tucker’s face in the end, well, so be it.

Katherine: What was your response to tucker’s offer?

Devon: I said, “no, thank you.” And I told him I’m just fine at jabot, even if he thinks that I don’t belong there. And I also made sure he knows that he can’t just buy my affection by creating some dazzling job for me.

Katherine: Well, I understand why you would question his motives.

Devon: I mean, look, here’s the thing, tucker says he wants me to be happy, but, I mean, you know, given how easily the guy lies, I have figured he’s just trying to use me for something.

Katherine: Well, knowing tucker, that’S… certainly not impossible.

Devon: And yet, you have given him another chance. More than one time. And katherine, I just have to ask you, how come?

Katherine: I would like to believe, despite everything, that, um… tucker is sincere in making amends.

Devon: But how do you know he’s being sincere this time?

Katherine: I don’t know that he is. I just would like to know that he is capable of change.

Devon: I said something that was pretty brutal, to him, and he seemed hurt. I don’t think he was faking it.

Katherine: Darling, the only way we are ever going to know what’s in the heart of that man is if– if we give him a chance to prove himself.

Devon: Or burn us again.

Katherine: All right, you listen to me. Like it or not, tucker is family. And you always… back up your family. No matter– no matter how much they’ve disappointed us.

Tucker: So, you are now, willing to let jack and diane just implode on their own while we focus on our thing?

Ashley: Yes. We’re just gonna sit back, and wait them out, ’cause diane’s just gonna, you know, do her worst at jabot. I know it.

Tucker: Gee, where have i heard that idea before?

Ashley: You were right. There, I said it.

Tucker: Sorry, I– I– I didn’t quite get that. Say it a little louder.

Ashley: Tucker mccall was right.

Tucker: Thank you very much.

Ashley: Yes, and, uh, diane will make a mess of things, because she has no idea what she’s doing, and then, we swoop in, we scoop up jabot’s best assets, we fold them into our own growing empire, and we save jabot.

Tucker: Right, because we can’t save jack.

Ashley: Exactly.

Tucker: Best way to preserve your father’s legacy is just to let her blow it.

Ashley: Yes.

Tucker: I love it, I love your new perspective. It’s so exciting.

Ashley: Yeah.

Tucker: You know what I wanna do? I just wanna stay in this room all day with you. And make plans. And make love.

Ashley: Oh, yeah. Yeah, but no. We have too much work to do. Yeah, sorry. We know patients are more than their disease. With cirkul, your water is deliciously flavored at the turn of a dial, with zero sugar and zero calories. And cirkul has over 40 flavors, so your water can be as unique as you are. Try cirkul at drinkcirkul.Com imagine you’re doing something you love.

[ Diane sighing ]

Diane: Replacing mariah is going to be tough.

Jack: Some of those resumes you showed me were promising.

Diane: Yeah, we have some strong candidates. She just understood the brand so well. First kyle, then, mariah.

[ Knocking on door ]

Summer: Hey. Sorry to interrupt. Emily told me that you were in here, jack.

Jack: That’s all right. Come on in, come on in. Uh, we’re just kind of spread out here.

Summer: Uh, I heard that you two got married. Congratulations.

Jack: Thank you.

Diane: Yeah, thanks, summer.

Jack: Yeah, it was a short, civil ceremony, but we’re gonna have a big, flashy celebration in the fall. We’d like you to be part of that.

Summer: Of course.

Jack: So, how’re you doing?

Summer: Uh, I’m hanging in there. I’m focusing on work. And you know that I brought chelsea on as creative director of marchetti.

Jack: Yes, I had heard that. I think it’s an excellent hire. She’s a very talented woman. She had a unique perspective on her chelsea by jabot designs years ago. I have every faith in your vision for marchetti. I cannot wait to see what the two of you accomplish together.

Summer: Thanks. Um, so, I was over at the house earlier seeing harrison, and he– he mentioned that kyle’s on a trip?

Diane: I’m surprised kyle didn’t tell you. He’s– he’s in new york on business.

Summer: With audra.

Jack: I believe so, yeah.

[ Exhaling sharply ]

Summer: What a surprise.

Jack: Well, she is his boss at newman media.

Summer: That’s not all she is.

Diane: What are you saying, summer?

Summer: They’re sleeping together.

Jack: Oh, honey, you shouldn’t assume that.

Summer: No, I’m not assuming. Kyle freely admitted it. He ditched jabot, he ditched me, and now I guess, he has everything that he wants. Sorry, um, I gotta go. I’m gonna talk to pr about announcing, um, chelsea’s hiring. I’ll– I’ll catch up with y’all later.

[ Jack sighing ]

[ Door shuts ]

[ Jack whispering behind door ]

[ Sighing ]

Jack: I still have my concerns.

Billy: Yeah? Why is that? Because you don’t think I can pull it off, jack?

Jack: No. Not at all. I don’t like putting you in an untenable situation. Billy, I admire how you have turned your life around. But disrupting a company and pretending to fail? That could stigmatize you in the business world at large.

Billy: Okay, well, I’m not worried about my reputation or what the public thinks about me, okay? Especially, not when it comes to protecting our family. Our father’s legacy. Jabot’s legacy.

Jack: Dad would be very proud of you for stepping up like this.

Billy: Well, it’s not like I’m falling back into my old ways, right? I’m doing what’s necessary to make sure that this doesn’t get out of hand.

Jack: You do realize, once we start this, there is no turning back.

Billy: Yeah, hi. Uh, this is billy abbott. I’m wondering if my sister, ashley, is there by chance? The dining room. And she’s there now? No, no, that’s fine. Thank you. I will, uh– I’ll come by. You as well. Thank you.

Tucker: Can I just have one piece of toast with my coffee? Thank you very much. So, what do you make of billy’s growing disillusionment with his older brother? Can that be useful to us?

Ashley: I don’t know. He was absolutely furious with him though, wasn’t he?

Tucker: Yeah.

Ashley: Enough to betray jack? Is that what you’re hinting at?

Tucker: Just looking at all the angles.

Ashley: Billy’s capable of it. He and jack have gone head to head on several issues over the years. Do you think we should lead him along, and see where it goes?

Tucker: Can he be led along? Or is he still more of a “looking out for number one” type guy.

Ashley: Well, he has been, but I think he’s definitely in a different headspace now. Can you imagine how great it would be if he was on our side, tucker? How helpful that would be? It would be incredible.

Tucker: I know, so, let’s begin the grand persuasion.

Ashley: Hm. Good idea. Billy. Join us.

Chance: Thanks.

Summer: Here you are again.

Chance: Wow, this is getting weird.

Summer: Picnic? Seems kind of elaborate for one person.

Chance: Yeah. It was supposed to be for two, but didn’t really work out. Hey, you hungry?

Summer: Uh, I don’t really have much of an appetite. But I– I guess, I could sit with you while you eat.

Chance: You free right now?

Summer: I actually, just had a meeting canceled, so, yeah.

Chance: Well, great. Grab a coffee, come with me. You know that feeling of having to rewash

Chance: Yeah?

Summer: So, audra and kyle are on a trip together.

Chance: Hm. That just sounds like normal newman media business, right? That makes sense.

Summer: Thank you for trying to be nice, but you and I both know that my husband, and yeah, he’s still my husband, is sleeping with audra.

[ Scoffs ]

Chance: I’m sorry.

Summer: Learning about this trip, it– it hit me hard.

Chance: Yeah, I can imagine.

Summer: I guess, I can’t pretend like it’s a casual thing anymore. I mean, they’re together at work, they’re together after work, it’s just like kyle and i used to be, you know? And I– I don’t– I don’t even know why I care. I mean, kyle, he just dropped me. Like it was nothing to him. So, why– why can’t I let it go? When am I gonna get to a better place, like where you are?

[ Sighing ]

Chance: Summer, I– I don’t think grief has a timetable like that. And make no mistake, that is what you’re feeling. You’re grieving the end of your marriage. And not just that, you’re grieving what you thought your life was gonna be like.

Summer: So different from this.

Chance: Yeah. Exactly. That’s why it stings. You know, I dreamed that abby and dominic and i would do all these things, right? Vacations, anniversaries, celebrations. Growing old together. None of that’s gonna happen. And so, I had to grieve this future that I imagined before I could move on. So, you’ll get there.

Summer: I’ve lost kyle before, you know? But this, it feels different. It’s just, like, every time I think that I’m inching a little bit closer to being able to… let it go, I–

Chance: It slips away, right?

Summer: Yeah.

Chance: You’re back at the beginning.

Summer: Maybe, what I need is closure.

Chance: Well, personally, I don’t think closure is a thing. I mean, every time you see kyle, all these– all this stuff is just gonna come rushing back. You know, the good, the bad.

Summer: Oh, great. Something to look forward to.

[ Chance chuckling ]

Chance: Well, maybe, it’ll be different for you, but that’s how it is for me. Hurts less each time. I can’t avoid seeing abby. This is genoa city. Plus, we’re doing the co-parenting thing, so, just like you, you’re gonna see kyle if you wanna be part of harrison’s life.

Summer: Well, of course, I’m gonna be a part of harrison’s life. I’m not giving that up.

Chance: So, what if kyle showed up right now, and said he forgives you? Then what?

[ Scoffs ]

Summer: I don’t– I don’t think that we could get back to where we were. Too much has changed.

Diane: What is kyle thinking? He has to know that he’s causing more problems for himself with summer.

Jack: I’m not sure kyle is doing much thinking these days.

Diane: Aren’t you worried about what he’s doing?

Jack: Of course I am. I have watched kyle and summer overcome so many things. I thought they would overcome this, too, eventually, but– well, given this, even if kyle can manage to forgive summer, I– I don’t know if there’s gonna be a chance for them to salvage their relationship now.

Diane: This just breaks my heart. I mean, we have found such happiness, and yet our son is making an utter mess of his life. I wish there was something we could do to help him.

Jack: You know what, I share that wish. But this is something only kyle can fix. Look, I think this dalliance with audra charles is an escape. A– a way to run from the pain. A– a means for staying numb and not thinking about anything for as long as he possibly can. I know something about this. I’ve been there.

[ Sighing ]

Diane: So, we’re worried about kyle and we have to watch our backs with your sister. This is… some way to start a marriage.

Jack: This marriage is the one thing that is going right. It is our happiness that gives me the confidence to believe we can solve this and anything else. Personally or professionally. Together.

Diane: Hmm.

Billy: What, you didn’t like what mrs. Martinez made for breakfast this morning?

Ashley: Mm-hm. We needed a break from the newlyweds.

Tucker: I’m late for my meeting with dom and devon, so I’m gonna go.

Ashley: Okay.

Tucker: I’ll see you later.

Ashley: Okay, bye. Give dominic a kiss for me.

Tucker: I will. William.

Billy: Tuck.

Ashley: So? How you doing? How are you feeling about our brother today?

[ Billy chuckling ] I don’t suppose you had any inclination to reach out to him after what happened last night?

Billy: No. Uh, no, I avoided them at all cost, which was, uh, lucky for me. Thought about it all night, couldn’t sleep, so I came here to get a workout, maybe shake off the stress, you know?

Ashley: I can’t think about anything else. Billy, I’m at my wit’s end. I mean, something has to be done and it has to happen fast. Don’t you agree?

Billy: Are you still planning to take legal action and get your assets out of jabot?

[ Ashley chuckling ]

Ashley: Oh, absolutely. And you do know that diane will be gunning for your job, right?

Billy: Yeah, I’ve thought about that. Why stop at the chief talent officer position when you can have the co-ceo position?

Ashley: Exactly. So, queen diane will be sitting right next to king jack, and they’ll be reigning over everything, and our father’s home, our father’s company, and jack’s letting it happen.

Billy: What if we don’t let it happen? I mean, I’ve tried, but I don’t– I mean, how do we talk sense into him?

Ashley: Oh, I don’t even think that’s possible anymore, frankly. And you know that he’s gonna be, you know, out to spite me. Probably you, too, after what happened last night.

Billy: So, what does that mean for jabot?

Ashley: What do you think? I mean, it puts the company in a very precarious situation, don’t you think? I mean, unless jack opens his eyes and sees diane for who she really is, I think jabot is destined to fail. And then our father’s once vibrant, expansive, global company is gonna crash and burn, and we’re not gonna have anything to leave our children, our grandchildren, and the whole thing is incredibly depressing.

Billy: I hate what jack is doing. I’m not a big fan of diane’s, but I’m not about to give up on jabot. So, you tell me, do you have any plans on how to save ourselves from this? Before it gets out of hand?

Ashley: I have an idea. I’m not sure how you’re gonna feel about it.

Billy: Try me.

Ashley: Well, you’re still there. And you have the inside track. How far are you willing to go to protect what’s ours? You can’t leave without cuddles.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

What can you do

with sensitive skin?

Chance: All right, that’s a good start. You’re accepting the reality of the situation. Reconciliation with kyle is not gonna happen. You said it out loud. It’s a big step. And I know it’s not easy.

Summer: I know that you know.

[ Summer sighing ]

Chance: Oh, check it out. There is an american goldfinch right there, you see it?

Summer: What?

Chance: An american goldfinch, the bird. Look, right there. Look at that tree. I bet you he flies by again. It’s black and yellow, that’s how you know it’s a male.

Summer: Are you a bird watcher or something?

Chance: I know a little. I got my bird study badge when I was in the scouts.

[ Chuckling ]

Summer: Wait, everybody calls you a boy scout but you actually were one.

Chance: Ah, yeah. Yeah, I was. You know, my mom, she didn’t really have a traditional upbringing, so she wanted me to try all the normal kids activities.

Summer: Hm.

Chance: Yeah.

Summer: I get that. Uh, my mom had me go to summer camp. And then she and I, we were actually in a mother-daughter scout-like organization.

Chance: No way. With, like, uniforms and badges and the whole getup?

Summer: Yeah.

Chance: Phyllis?

Summer: [ Laughing ] Yes.

Chance: Wow.

Summer: We were– we were called, um, the sunflower girls, and, yeah, uh, we– we went to a few meetings, we made, uh, beaded jewelry, and we made smores over fire, and it– it didn’t last that long though ’cause it’s like you said, not very phyllis-like.

Chance: [ Chuckling ] Yeah. Hey! Hey! I, uh– I thought you had a meeting.

Sharon: Well, you went to so much trouble, I felt bad turning you down for a picnic, so I told adam that we had to push our meeting back. Um, I came back here to try to catch you, but I see that summer has taken my place.

Tucker: I tell ya, that kid gets cuter by the day.

[ Devon chuckling]

Devon: He could just be the cutest little ring bearer this town’s ever seen.

Tucker: Really?

Devon: Hey. Maybe. We’ll see.

[ Tucker gasping ]

[ Groaning ]

Tucker: Well, I just gotta tell you, yet again, devon, how honored I am that you agreed to be my best man. Um… I don’t think I can come up the words to express it.

[ Chuckles ]

Devon: Well, hey, I’m– I’m very happy that things are working out for you, and abby and i are both very happy for you and ashley. Wish you guys the best.

Tucker: Thanks.

Devon: But I gotta say that abby’s not too thrilled with her mom right now.

Tucker: Oh, wow. Abby more upset with her mom than she is with me.

Devon: Yeah.

Tucker: Who saw this day coming?

Devon: It just– it seems like ashley’s determined to tear down jabot just ’cause of how much she hates diane, and doesn’t care about who she hurts in the process.

Tucker: No, that’s not quite true. You know how much jabot means to ashley. She’s just concerned that jack and diane are gonna do irreparable harm to the company and to themselves. To jack. And I think– I hope, that I have dissuaded ashley from pursuing her more, uh, aggressive plans, and instead concentrate on the wedding, and our new venture together, kind of thing.

Devon: Yeah. It’s crazy ’cause it sounds like you’re the logical, clear-headed one in the relationship, man.

Tucker: I know, who would’ve thunk, right?

Devon: Yeah.

Tucker: Yeah. And she won’t say it, but I think this feud with jack’s really breaking her heart. So, I’m gonna do whatever I can to spare her any more pain.

Devon: Well, I don’t see how abby can find any fault in that.

Ashley: You are in the perfect position to expose diane. She can’t be trusted. Now, I’ve always known that, and I’m incredibly grateful that you know that, too. Now that she is firmly ensconced in jabot’s executive suite, it’s only a matter of time before she shows everybody who she really is.

Billy: Go on.

Ashley: And with a little bit of prodding…

Billy: By me.

Ashley: Yes. She’s going to mess everything up because, billy, she doesn’t know what the hell she’s doing on her mad quest for power. And ultimately, everybody will see how she’s hurting our father’s company.

Billy: So, you want me to push her buttons?

Ashley: In ways that I have never been able to. I’ve seen it clearly. You can fix everything. That can lead to skin and saves me money? I’m starting to like downy.

Summer: I– I’m gonna get going. Chance made this beautiful picnic for you, sharon, so you should enjoy it.

Sharon: Uh, no, summer, don’t be silly. Why don’t you stay? I’m sure that chance’s idea of a meal for two was based on his hearty appetite, so I’m sure there’s enough food to go around.

[ Summer chuckling ]

Summer: Um, nah, I gotta get to work anyway, so. Thanks.

Chance: Yeah.

Sharon: How is she doing?

Chance: Oh, well, you know how tough the end of a marriage can be. She’s a strong woman, though. She’ll be all right. Anyways, have a seat. Welcome. Jump on in. What do we got? I got everything. I got, you know, some quiche…

Devon: Yeah, I do need to confess, though, that abby and I both thought that you were the one pushing ashley to go to war with jack.

Tucker: Don’t worry about that. I totally understand why you would, given my past.

Devon: Yeah.

Tucker: But, now it’s not the case.

Devon: Yeah, I know that. Abby believes that now, too. She has a completely different opinion about it and she thinks her mom is the one who’s behind going after jack and the company.

Tucker: Hm.

Devon: And she’s kind of freaked out about it ’cause you know how much she loves her mother and her family.

Tucker: Oh, yeah. But she really shouldn’t worry because there’s nothing too nefarious about any of ashley’s intentions. She just doesn’t trust diane. Neither do I, frankly. She wants to save jack and preserve the sterling legacy of jabot and all that.

Devon: Well, maybe ashley just needs to make that clear to abby. ‘Cause I don’t honestly think ashley realizes how an abbott sibling battle could have consequences that go way past just business.

Tucker: Okay. I’ll do whatever I can. Ashley and abby should not be at odds right now. Especially now.

Ashley: I did not handle things well. I admit it. I mean, I was angry, and I– I let my resentment get the best of me. But even after what happened last night, you and jack and diane are still on better terms than– than I am, for sure.

Billy: So you– you want me to spy on them for you and nudge diane to the dark side?

Ashley: No, I’m not asking you to spy, billy, and very little nudging. I mean, maybe a gentle push until diane shows her true agenda. The company falters, it’s– it’s weakened, and then we move in and we acquire jabot, and we save our father’s company. You and i save our father’s company. Okay? It’s for the good of jabot, don’t you see that?

Billy: Ashley–

Ashley: We’re talking about our father’s legacy. Okay? You could be the hero of the family. Do you get that?

Billy: Yeah. I get it, okay? I understand preserving our family’s legacy, but what you’re asking me to do right now…

[ Sighing ] I’m gonna have to think about it.

Jack: So, you feeling any better?

Diane: About finding a new director of marketing? Yes. About our son making a mess of his life? No.

[ Knocking on door ]

Summer: Hey. Sorry to interrupt again.

Jack: No, not at all. Come on in.

Summer: I thought that you might wanna see a hard copy of the press release announcing chelsea’s hiring.

Jack: Yeah. This is– this is great. Thank you. Hey. You all right?

Summer: No. [ Chuckles ] But I will be.

Diane: Let us know if there’s anything we can do.

Summer: I think that I’m just starting to accept that it’s over between me and kyle. There’s no going back to what we had, and if he can move on, so can I. So, that’s what I’m gonna do now. Thanks.

[ Jack sighing ] Trelegy for copd.

Sharon: Summer needs a friend right now. It’s nice that you could be there for her.

Chance: Yeah, you know, I’m still getting to know her. I can just relate to what she’s going through. But enough about summer. I wanna focus on you.

Sharon: Oh, yeah?

Chance: Yeah. I am very happy you were able to join me today. Hope I didn’t put too much pressure on you. I know getting this company up and running is priority number one, and I do not wanna get in the way.

Sharon: Seeing you is the best part of my day, too. My life is expanding in ways that I could’ve never anticipated. But I can’t let business get in the way of what matters most.

Chance: Like this blueberry.

[ Chuckling ]

Tucker: I’m back. I said hello to our grandson.

Ashley: Thank you. Did you have fun?

Tucker: Yeah. The kid’s got one hell of a playroom. I think I could go over there every day and not play with the same toy twice.

Ashley: Hm.

Tucker: So, what did billy have to say?

Ashley: Yeah. Well, he didn’t agree to help us. I mean, not verbatim, but I think he’s leaning that way. And can you imagine how wonderful it would be if he did? We could actually save jabot. I mean, we could. And maybe, maybe even jack. I mean, well, listen, it might not be too late. That’s– that’s all I’m saying, okay? That’s it.

Tucker: Yes. Whatever you say, my dear. I– I am still most interested in what we are creating together. That’s the destination that I– I care about. How we get there doesn’t matter to me. But we have some more urgent matters to discuss.

Ashley: What?

Tucker: You need to make things right with abby.

Ashley: What are you talking about? Things are pretty good with abby. I mean, you know–

Tucker: Yeah, you know.

Ashley: What?

Tucker: But what we’re planning, right? Uh, no matter how we spin it, no matter how we go about it, could come between the two of you, so I just think we need to do whatever it takes to prevent that from happening.

Jack: Hey.

Billy: Hey. I got some news.

Jack: About ashley?

Billy: Our sister asked me to join her version of our plan. She wants me to be a trojan horse here in jabot in order to push you to become greedy and controlling so you would then see her for who she really is.

Jack: My god.

Billy: The master plan, as far as I see it, is to allow diane to damage jabot.

Jack: Wait, damage it how?

Billy: Her ambitions. Her bad decisions. Her words, not mine. My role in the whole thing is to basically allow it to happen. To let jabot fall, not so far that it actually harms the reputation, but enough for tucker and ashley to come in and rake the assets, the employees. Ashley and tucker’s new company, simply “ashley,” I think it’s named, would then take control. Swallow up jabot. This is our sister’s plan to protect our father’s legacy. It’s a power play if I’ve ever seen one.

Diane: So, this is all about me? Ashley has hated me since the first day I set foot in this building decades ago. But you know what, don’t get angry. This is a good thing.

Jack: A good thing?

Diane: Yes. She and tucker clearly trust billy enough to include him in their plans. We just need to figure out how to use that to our advantage.

[ Abby chatting indistinctly ]

Abby: If you’ll excuse me, one second. This isn’t good for you, mom. You have to let it go.

Ashley: I’m trying. It’s not that simple.

Abby: Uncle jack and diane, they’re already married. There’s nothing you can do about it now.

Ashley: Well, there’s a lot that I plan to do about it, abby.

Abby: Why?

Ashley: Oh, my god, we have gone over this.

Abby: I guess, I just– I don’t understand why them marrying each other is such a big deal to you.

Ashley: Are you really that naive?

Abby: I guess I am. So, please enlighten me.

Ashley: Well, jack and diane’s decision to get married today was not some madcap romp to the courthouse so those two crazy kids could tie the knot. It was a bullet aimed directly at me.

Abby: Okay, but they have been engaged since the gala and so much has happened since then. None of this is about you–

Ashley: Abby, please. They were trying to make a point. Well, point taken. I’m gonna show them they can’t shoot me down so easily.

Daniel: Hey.

Lily: Hi. I have a surprise for you. Hurry up.

Chance: Hey.

Summer: Oh, hi.

Chance: We seem to keep uh, meeting like this.

Summer: I know, are you following me or something?

Chance: Uh, no, just getting some coffee.

Summer: Sorry, dumb question I guess.

Chance: It’s all good.

Summer: It’s been a long day. Thank you.

Chance: Yeah, I can tell. You know, I’m happy to listen if you want to talk.

Summer: Uh, I– I don’t, actually.

Chance: Okay. Does that mean you don’t wanna talk to me or you don’t want to talk to a cop?

Summer: Well, it’s kind of the same thing, isn’t it?

Chance: I can tell something’s bothering you. And whatever it is, I’m guessing it has to do with phyllis.

Adam: Phyllis. What a surprise. Um…

Phyllis: Housewarming gift.

Adam: What? Okay. Um, you shouldn’t have.

Phyllis: I know.

Adam: Come in. Okay. Well, since you already have the job if you want it and you’re not exactly a housewarming gift type, to what else do I owe the pleasure?

Phyllis: Wow, adam. You know me so well.

Adam: Well, I could say the same to you.

Phyllis: Well, think of this housewarming gift as a, um, symbol of our future collaboration.

Adam: A symbol?

Phyllis: Mm-hmm, yeah. A symbol sort of, you know, prickly and never dies like you. Or bitter resentment.

Adam: Whose?

Phyllis: Yours. Towards certain members of your family. Um, in particular… nick. Listen, let’s just cut to the chase. How was nick when you told him that I might be working with you? Was he okay with it or was it like a grenade that blew up in his face? To 50 years with my best friend.

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Adam: Nick and sharon were definitely not happy that I offered you a job.

[ Phyllis laughing ]

Phyllis: So, it’s a dead issue?

Adam: No, their reaction was more at me not running it by them. When they thought about it, they came on board.

Phyllis: Just like that?

Adam: Phyllis, why don’t you have a seat?

Phyllis: Okay.

Adam: You know, I did have to do a little singing, a little dancing.

Phyllis: To convince them to work with someone like me?

Adam: Well, someone who has skills and experience of tremendous value to the company.

Phyllis: At a reasonable price.

Adam: No, I also told them that you need to turn your life around for summer and daniel. And nick paid particular attention to that part. I think that’s what ultimately sealed the deal. He wants things to be okay with you and your kids.

Phyllis: Wow, that’s very nice. I appreciate that. Hey, listen, um… I really want this to work. With as little chaos and– and drama as possible.

[ Adam laughing ]

Adam: Are you being serious?

Phyllis: Yeah, I’m being serious. You know I’ve had enough of that to last a lifetime.

Adam: I– I understand, but the four of us, we have a long history of stirring up conflict. So, if you’re looking for peace, calm, and serenity, I can’t guarantee that.

Phyllis: Hey, well, I’m going to do my part to keep the waters calm, so.

Adam: Fair enough. You know, I actually believe you. And I actually believe that the right people are in the right positions and this crazy idea just might work. So, why don’t we just get to the point?

Phyllis: I thought I had.

Adam: Phyllis, you told me on the phone that you have conditions for taking this job. Now, you have already brought me the cactus, you’ve asked about nick. So, what is the real, real reason that you’re here?

Phyllis: I need you to find something to take tucker mccall down.

Abby: When will this war end, mom?

Ashley: When somebody wins. And it’s gonna be me.

Abby: But the family loses, then we all lose.

Devon: Yeah, I think that abby’s right because lily and I went through something similar recently, as you guys know. And we said a lot of things that hurt and became public knowledge. And then by the time we made up and came back together, we realized that it was a mistake to fight in the first place.

Tucker: Maybe that’s not quite a fair comparison.

Devon: Why not?

Tucker: Well, because neither you nor lily introduced the kind of chaos into chancellor-winters that jack is into jabot by pushing diane into it. And despite his claims that he’s pursuing love, that’s just bs. It’s nothing but a willful disruption of the family business, nothing more.

Ashley: Exactly, that woman is going to destroy everything we have spent years building.

Abby: Okay, so if jabot is your biggest worry, then why did you walk away?

Ashley: I couldn’t stay there. I couldn’t watch while jack let diane burn jabot to the ground.

Abby: So, you left the family company to start a competing business with someone that uncle jack doesn’t like or trust. How is that any better? If you really want to protect the abbott family business legacy, then stay at the company. Fight the battle from the inside.

[ Daniel humming ]

Lily: Surprise! [ Laughing ]

Daniel: Yeah, surprise. What is all this?

Lily: This is relaxation. I thought I could help take your mind off your mom’s troubles for a while.

Daniel: Yeah, but, um–

Lily: Yeah, and I know how much you love doing art and that you go to this very special place when you are. So, that’s what we’re gonna do.

Daniel: We’re gonna draw?

Lily: Yes, you’re gonna draw. Still life with fruit bowl.

[ Lily chuckling ]

Summer: Chance, I would love to be able to talk to you about this, but–

Chance: I’m a cop and your mom’s on trial for murder. Yeah. But, you know what? You have confided in me before and that didn’t go anywhere else.

Summer: I know. But the thing is I don’t trust my instincts anymore ’cause I keep on screwing things up, so I think I’m just gonna sit with this one, miserably.

Chance: I’ll make you a deal. You shoot me straight. Tell me everything on your mind and I will sit here and I will stay, and as long as it doesn’t involve any kind of future crimes, I will be here for you, as your friend.

[ Summer chuckling ]

Summer: I would really love to believe that chance, I would.

Chance: You can trust me. You have my word.

Summer: I think that my mom is not being completely honest with me and daniel.

Chance: Why do you think that?

Summer: It’s just a feeling that I get. Plus, knowing her and how she operates.

Chance: Well, fair enough. What do you think she’s hiding?

Summer: I don’t know, but it’s big. Even bigger than the charges that she’s facing right now.

Chance: Well, you don’t get much bigger than murder.

Summer: Maybe not bigger then. Maybe, it’s just more complicated. But whatever it is, I’m just afraid that it’s gonna make this whole nightmare even worse, if that’s even possible.

Chance: Have you tried talking to her?

Summer: Yeah, but she’s on this redemption tour with me and daniel, so she doesn’t want to drag us into her problems and she keeps on apologizing and–

Chance: Oh, I’m sure that’s genuine.

Summer: Sure, might be. But it doesn’t answer the question of what’s really going on. And I’m actually starting to get worried that christine is gonna look at me as an accessory too. And I just feel stuck between a rock and a hard place. And the hard place is actually looking a lot like prison. Type 2 diabetes?

Daniel: It’s a nice idea.

Lily: I mean, yeah, I thought so.

Daniel: A little odd maybe.

Lily: Odd?

Daniel: Yeah, I… [ Sighs ] I don’t really see how drawing a bowl of fruit is gonna ease my mind all that much.

Lily: Well, I mean, you won’t know until you try. It could be a good distraction.

Daniel: This just isn’t speaking to me.

Lily: Oh, it’s not speaking to you? [ Laughing ] Okay, um, I mean, what about– what about these flowers?

Daniel: Oh, definitely not.

[ Lily laughing ]

Lily: Wow, someone’s picky. Okay, you know what? If still life is not working for you, I do have another idea. I’ll be back.

Abby: You know, I’m starting to think you want diane to bring jabot down, just to prove that you’re right.

Ashley: You know what, abby? That’s a terrible thing to say to me.

Abby: I’m sorry. That’s just the feeling that I get.

Ashley: You can’t tell me that you trust diane any more than I do. Even billy’s had enough. He’s come around to my side of things.

Abby: That’s the thing, okay? I don’t want to pick sides between you and uncle jack. There should be no sides.

Devon: Okay. Hey, I have an idea. There’s a wedding coming up soon, right?

Tucker: Yes.

Abby: Yes, yes, thank you. I love you.

Devon: I love you. How about we put a pin in all the family drama and we focus on something a little more positive?

Tucker: Yes. Let’s, uh, plan a wedding. Yes?

Ashley: Okay.

Devon: Yeah.

Tucker: Okay.

Abby: Yeah.

Chance: I can talk to christine.

Summer: I’m– I’m not asking you to do that.

Chance: You don’t have to. And I think I can convince her to leave you alone.

Summer: How?

Chance: Well, by appealing to her sense of fairness. You know, I think everyone can agree that you’ve been through more than enough since the gala. And I think I can convince christine that any actions that were taken to help your mother were taken under extreme duress. Plus, I don’t think she has a really strong case against you.

Summer: You don’t?

Chance: Mm-mm.

Summer: Even given everything I knew and when I knew them?

Chance: I mean, what witnesses would she have that could testify that you helped your mother while she was on the run?

Summer: Kyle.

Chance: Oh. And you think he’d be willing to take it that far?

Summer: Yeah, I think he’d be all too willing.

Chance: Hm. Okay, well, then I can make the argument that kyle has his own agenda. You know, he’s mad about what his mother went through, which he has every right to be. But, summer, you have been through hell too. And I would say enough is enough.

Summer: I wish that you were the D.A.

[ Both chuckling ]

Chance: Yeah, that is, uh, well above my pay grade.

Summer: Hey, thank you for talking me off the ledge just a little.

Chance: Oh, just a little? That’s all?

Summer: Well, I’m still not out of the woods yet. I mean, kyle is still so angry at me. There’s no telling how far he would go to make me pay and whatever happened to me, I would deserve it.

Chance: Stop. No, you don’T.

Summer: I do.

Chance: No, you don’t, summer. Period. Look, summer, I have been around a lot of people who have been in jeopardy, right? A lot of people who have been in the middle of a conflict just like this. And just like you, they acted impulsively. They were unable to even imagine the consequences. Summer, you were trying to protect your mother. That is human nature. So, people might not approve of it, but they should at least understand the instinct. And anyone who doesn’t, I tell you, they are just flat-out heartless.

Adam: I have to hand it to you, phyllis. When it comes to laying waste to your enemies, you are in a class by yourself.

Phyllis: Hey, don’t sell yourself short.

Adam: Well, compliment accepted. But in this case, I would advise against it.

Phyllis: Why?

Adam: You’re facing very serious criminal charges.

Phyllis: I’m innocent.

Adam: Right, which is all the more reason to act like a model citizen until the trial is over.

Phyllis: Hey, this isn’t just about vengeance on tucker mccall. It– it’s a necessity.

Adam: Why?

Phyllis: It just is.

Adam: Okay, I get it. He has something that you want. Would you care to share that?

Phyllis: Hey, can you just trust that I know what I’m doing, without any questions asked?

Adam: Normally, I would say yes. You know, we’ve given each other the benefit of the doubt over the years. But in this case, I can’T.

Phyllis: You can’t? Since when have you understood the concept of caution?

Adam: I am under victor’s microscope. Not to mention nick’s and sharon’s, okay? I need this new company to work and that means I can’t get involved in any shady enterprises with our ace chief technical officer. So, I’m afraid the answer is no, phyllis. I don’t want any part of this. Postmenopausal women with hr+ her2-

Phyllis: Well, this is completely unexpected. Um, not to mention disappointing.

Adam: Okay, I get disappointing, but unexpected? Really?

Phyllis: Yeah, since when have you marched to your family’s tune? When did that happen?

Adam: I’m looking out for my future.

Phyllis: Then you understand, so am I.

Adam: Yes, but at the moment, I am free and clear of any obstacles and I intend to keep it that way, particularly when they’re not mine.

Phyllis: Uh, since when have you walked the straight and narrow where your family is concerned? In particular, your father and nick? Do I need to remind you that you stirred the family pot, even when you were on good terms with your family?

Adam: Well, people can change.

Phyllis: Yeah, but that’s ordinary people. That’s not you. What’s going on? What is your game now?

Adam: You keep forgetting, I’m not the one with the problem. I’m not the one asking for a favor. Because so far, all you’ve asked me to do, phyllis, is trust you and that’s a big ask these days.

Phyllis: What do you want?

Adam: I want you to tell me why you need to take down tucker mccall and what he has on you. And why does it need to happen right now?

Abby: Peace?

Ashley: What is it?

Abby: Well, it is everything I’ve been putting together for your wedding. I’ve been wanting to go over it with you, but we keep getting distracted. So, can we do it now, please?

Ashley: Of course.

Abby: Thank you.

Ashley: Let’s go. Excuse me, honey.

Tucker: God.

[ Devon chuckling ] Thank you so much.

Devon: For what?

Tucker: For changing the subject. All this jack and diane business. Man, it’s got her down in the dumps. It’s got me down in the dumps. It’s really nice to have her focused on something more positive. At least, temporarily.

Devon: Oh, yeah. I’m happy I can help, but I feel like we’re gonna need a referee at this wedding to keep the abbotts from tearing each other apart.

Tucker: No, you have my word. It will be a war-free zone. Okay?

Devon: Right.

Tucker: And I’ve already said it, but thanks again for letting us have it here.

Devon: Yeah, absolutely. This is– this is always gonna be katherine’s house no matter who lives here. So, it’s our family home, and you belong here as much as anybody does.

Tucker: Oh, thank you. Um…

[ Chuckling ] I got another favor to ask you. It’s kind of a big one.

Devon: Is it?

Tucker: Yeah. Would you do me the honor of being my best man?

Summer: I really want to believe that what I did for my mom can be forgiven, or at least, understood. I mean, kyle crossed the line too. So, if I deserve to be forgiven, does that mean that he does too?

Chance: I obviously can’t answer that.

Summer: No, I know. It just pisses me off how easily he moved on. I mean, one minute, we’re fighting, and the next minute, he’s in bed with audra.

Chance: If you’re looking for advice on forgiving a spouse for sleeping with someone else, I’m not the right guy.

Summer: Oh, my god, chance. I am so sorry.

Chance: No, it’s fine.

Summer: No, I wasn’t even thinking about you and abby, I–

Chance: Summer, it’s fine. Really. Look, our marriage, it was dying. I didn’t know it then, but I know it now. We weren’t meant to go the distance. So, I sympathize with you. I know exactly how you’re feeling because I have been there.

Summer: That’s the thing. I really thought that kyle and i were meant to go the distance. We’ve overcome so many problems in the past. But maybe– maybe, that’s it. Maybe one couple can only handle so many problems before there’s just no… fixing it again.

[ Summer sighing ] I want to be where you are. Accepting, forgiving. Seriously, chance, how– how did you do it?

Chance: I don’t know, time… distance, work. Sometimes, a little too much work. My friends and family wouldn’t let me stay in that dark place. And it’s not just one thing that’s just gonna fix your life like that. Which means, there’s not one thing that can break it either.

Lily: So, since my bowl of fruit wasn’t inspiring for you… you can draw me instead.

Daniel: I don’t think I could ever do you justice.

Lily: Well, you can try. And then, when you’re done, I can draw you. When my doctor gave me breztri for my copd Hi, my name is tony cooper. Summer: You’re a very wise man. Do you know that?

Chance: Now, you’re just making fun of me, aren’t you?

Summer: No, I’m not. I really do wish that I had, um, your sense of clarity and calm. I mean, what, were my mom and i out of town when they were passing those things out?

Chance: There you go, being hard on yourself again.

Summer: No, I– I’m just all out of solutions, chance. I mean, my mom too. She’s panicking, I can tell, even though she’s trying to hide it.

Chance: Well, she’s in a tough spot. There’s no doubt there.

Summer: I love her and I’M… so glad that she’s home. I want her to be safe. But I really did think that when she got back here, that kyle and i would have a chance to heal. That’s just not how it turned out. I– I don’t know how to accept it and move on. I don’T.

Chance: I’ll tell you how. You just take it one day at a time. Sometimes, one hour at a time, all right? But you’re gonna get there. I know it.

Summer: It’s hard. I feel like I’ve got a million things in my head and I can’t even focus on any of them.

Chance: Well, summer, maybe it’s time you let your mom deal with her life and you focus on yours.

Phyllis: You, of all people, should understand why I am reluctant to give you any personal information about myself. You know, something that you could possibly hold over my head.

Adam: Well, knowledge is power.

Phyllis: That you use as a sledgehammer, so…

Adam: Okay. Okay, well, feel free to find somebody else to help you dismantle tucker mccall. I mean, again, I don’t even know why you’re asking for help, phyllis. God knows, you have the resources to get this done on your own.

Phyllis: Yeah, but you so generously pointed out that I need to keep my nose clean for my kids, for my family, for your business partners.

Adam: Oh, I get it, okay. So, when you say you need help, what you’re really saying is you need someone else to do the dirty work, and take the risk.

Phyllis: No.

Adam: Which makes it a lot less appealing.

Phyllis: Of course, of course, of course. But you don’t even need to get your hands dirty. I mean, I just need some information on tucker. That’s all I need, you know? Like there’s got to be some dirt on him when he was running mccall and you own that company now.

Adam: Yeah, that’s true. I do own the company.

Phyllis: All right, so, didn’t you do a deep dive?

Adam: Of course, I did a deep dive. I mean, there’s not much there though. You know, poor management is not gonna help your cause.

Phyllis: How deep did you go?

Adam: How damaging do you need it to be?

Phyllis: This is the thing. I’m not trying to destroy him. I just need the means to do it.

Adam: You want the sword hanging over his head?

Phyllis: Yes.

Adam: Well, then, that can only mean one thing. That what he has over you, it’s life or death.

Abby: Obviously, the catering is taken care of. Society is going to do all of that, but we do need to know how many people you’re inviting. Do you have a head count yet?

Ashley: Um, no, not exactly. But, we want it to be small.

Abby: Small? Okay, so are you thinking like, 5 people, 50 people?

Ashley: We haven’t really talked about that quite yet.

Abby: Okay, um, do you have a date yet?

Ashley: Date? Oh.

Abby: A date. For your wedding.

Ashley: Oh, no. Not– not yet, no.

Abby: Okay, well, that’s– that’s a really good place to start.

Ashley: Yeah, well, you know, we’re gonna figure it out for sure. What?

[ Abby sighing ]

Abby: Do you even care about this wedding?

Ashley: What kind of a question is that? Of course, I do.

Abby: Because I’m starting to get the feeling that you marrying tucker is the exact same thing you’re accusing uncle jack of. A way to get back at your enemies.

Tucker: Listen, I know it’s a big ask and if you decide to turn me down, I totally understand. It’s just that when I was thinking about the wedding and– and who I would like to have up there with me… there was only one answer. But you know, think about it.

Devon: Well, hey, I don’t need any time to think about it. I– I have my answer for you. With new scope squeez mouthwash concentrate,

Lily: Wow, that’s nice.

Daniel: Mm-hmm. Thank you.

Lily: I mean, you have potential.

Daniel: It’s kind of hard to miss when you have such a perfect subject.

[ Lily chuckling ]

Lily: Okay, it’s your turn. So, do you wanna take your own clothes off? Or do you want me to take them off?

Daniel: Hm, I think you can take them off.

Lily: I think that’s a good choice. [ Laughing ] Oh, wait, wait, wait, hold on, hold on, hold on. I have to draw you. I have to draw you, remember? Hold on, hold on. Okay. Okay. This is gonna be good. All right. Hold on. Oh, gosh. Oh. Yep. Mm-hm. Mm-hm. This is definitely, harder than it looks.

[ Daniel chuckles ] Okay, smiling, yes. Muscles, okay. [ Chuckles ] What do you think?

Daniel: I think that is worthy of a prize.

[ Lily chuckling ]

Phyllis: You know what? I’m gonna make you a deal.

Adam: Mm-hmm. This is gonna be really interesting.

Phyllis: I’m gonna work for you for free. For six months. Then, after that, my rate kicks in.

Adam: That’s very generous of you.

Phyllis: Yeah, yeah. It is, it is. Considering my rate, it is.

Adam: I thought you were very desperate for the money?

Phyllis: I’m very desperate to stay out of prison.

Adam: You know, I think I figured this out.

Phyllis: What did you figure out, adam?

Adam: You and tucker, and what he has on you. You know, I always thought this, um, emt guy, it was a little too coincidental that he just comes out of a very safe nowhere to save your ass. So, what’s the story, phyllis? Was he lying? Was he paid off? Or did tucker pay him off and that’s the hold he has over you?

Phyllis: What if it was?

[ Adam sighing ]

Adam: Well, if it’s true… it changes… everything.

Abby: Am I right, mom? Is this wedding just another way to get under uncle jack’s skin?

Ashley: No, you’re not right. And please don’t compare us to that sham of a marriage.

Abby: Really? Because uncle jack and diane, they seem in love. They do, and I highly doubt that they are spending their evening thinking about ways to bring you down.

Ashley: Don’t bet on that.

Abby: I offered to have this wedding here, I did, and I wanted to. But if this is just another way for you to get back at uncle jack, I want no part of it. You can take it somewhere else.

Devon: Tucker, I would be honored to be your best man.

Tucker: Ah. Thank you, devon. That just means the world to me. Thank you.

Devon: Yeah, I– listen, I believe you when you say that you’ve changed and I believe that the love that you and ashley have is the real deal. So, let’s do this.

Tucker: Fantastic. Well, you have no idea how nervous I was to ask you.

Devon: Oh, yeah?

Tucker: Yeah.

Devon: Tucker mccall gets nervous?

Tucker: Yes, he does.

Devon: Does he?

Tucker: Yeah, ’cause you know, there have been times in the past few months I felt like I had just hit a wall in trying to earn your trust back and your respect. I know I’m not 100% there. That’s fine. But having you as my best man, it just feels like a big step forward for us. All right.

Devon: Come here.

[ Footsteps departing ]

Devon: Absolutely. Glad you guys could come by.

Ashley: Sure.

Tucker: And thank you for, you know.

Devon: Hey, it was my pleasure, my pleasure.

Ashley: Um, I’ll call you tomorrow.

Abby: Sure.

Ashley: Abby?

Abby: Yes.

Ashley: Never mind, um… I’ll call you.

Devon: Take care, guys. That was kind of chilly between you two.

Abby: I am just so angry with her.

Devon: Why are you angry? What did she do?

Abby: You know, I think my instincts were wrong about tucker. He’s not pushing this feud between my mom and uncle. She is. And if she pushes too far, there’ll be no coming back.

Summer: I know that at some point, I am gonna have to set some stronger boundaries with my mom. I mean, at least, if I want to live a sane, somewhat normal life. But it’s not gonna be easy.

Chance: Well, of course. It’s your mother and you love her.

Summer: At what cost though, right? I think that I’m finally, realizing that she’s not gonna change, ever. So, I– I’ve got to be the one that finds a better way.

Chance: You’re gonna figure it out. I got no doubt in my mind. And if you ever want to talk, I will be here to listen.

Summer: Thank you. I really needed to get all of that stuff out.

Chance: Yeah, and look at that, you didn’t once admit to anything sounding like a future crime.

[ Both chuckling ]

Summer: So, this really was all friend-to-friend, right? Not friend to cop?

Chance: Friend to friend.

Daniel: Wait.

Lily: What?

Daniel: Don’t move. I want to draw you just like this.

[ Lily chuckling ] Thank you.

[ Lily chuckling ]

Lily: You’re welcome.

[ Pencil scraping ]

Adam: So, tucker mccall… literally, has your freedom in his hands.

[ Phyllis sighing ]

Phyllis: Yes. And if I go to prison, you know, that’s really bad for you, because then, I can’t work for you. And you know there’s no one better.

[ Adam laughing ]

Adam: You know, phyllis, I have always admired your ability to, um, keep playing poker even though you’ve just revealed you have a pretty lousy hand.

Phyllis: Are you gonna help me?

Adam: I have to think about it.

Phyllis: Don’t think too long.

[ Adam sighing ]

[ Summer sighing ]

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Daniel: [ Chuckling ] Really? Well, challenge accepted, lily. No, I’ll talk to you later. Bye.

Summer: What are you so happy about?

[ Daniel exhaling ]

Daniel: I don’t know. Life. Okay, look, I’ll admit, not everything’s perfect. You know, there is our mother. But things are going really well with lily and things are going great with omegasphere.

Summer: Maybe, that’s what I need to do. Maybe I need to play your damn video games. Do you think that that would help me fix my life?

Phyllis: Oh, come on in.

Nick: You know, it’s bad enough that you made us grieve for your death. You even watched us do it. But your stunt cost summer her marriage. You have ruined all of your relationships time and time again. But how can you destroy what summer and kyle had? Who does that to their own daughter?

Phyllis: I mean, don’t– don’t try to make me feel worse than I already do.

Nick: Oh, no, that would be a bonus. I’m here for one reason only and that is to offer you a deal.

Phyllis: What kind of deal?

Nick: If you are acquitted, if a jury finds you innocent of the crimes you committed, I will pay for every cent of your legal fees. And in return, all you have to do is leave town forever. After what you did to summer, I never want to see your face again. No one does.

Sharon: Oh, my gosh. Thank you for bringing aria by. I swear she has gotten bigger since the last time I saw her.

Mariah: Since yesterday?

Sharon: Well, babies change quickly.

Tessa: If you’re trying to imply that you want to see aria every day, message received.

Mariah: The only way to get her to settle down is by driving her around now. So, once she was conked out, we figured we would risk it and come grab a cup of coffee, and also, check in on you.

Tessa: But everyone needs to stay quiet, so she’ll stay asleep.

Mariah: So, how are you doing after the cameron incident? I talked to faith yesterday and it seemed like she was pushing it a little bit to, like, sound okay.

Sharon: Well, I think she’s gonna be fine. She’s a warrior. Both my daughters are warriors. You survived your own kidnapping by that terrible ian ward and then stitch. I know you haven’t forgotten.

Mariah: I definitely try to. [ Chuckling ] Except the part about giving birth to dom. But no, we got very lucky in the gene pool, faith and I. Strong and resilient. So, tell me that you are doing okay.

Sharon: I am. I am feeling really strong. I’m looking forward, not back. I have a brand new company to run! And I have new partners in nick and adam, which I’m meeting with them in a bit.

Mariah: How is it that the three of you are working together? [ Laughs ] And more importantly, how have you guys not killed each other yet?

Nick: So, you’re saying, after our meeting with dad last night where you, me and sharon all agreed we were on the same page–

Adam: He pulled the rug out from under us. He says he needs to take charge himself. So, he’s calling the shots now.

Nick: Hm. Yeah, that doesn’t make sense, adam.

Adam: Well, he flew off to germany today to meet with the money guys about an influx of cash. So, we are to do nothing, and wait for further “instructions.”

Nick: What’d you do? Did you piss him off again?

Adam: No, nick. I swear I didn’t do anything.

Nick: This is about newman media and your need to just swallow it up. So, you went ahead with your plans and what a surprise, it blew up in all our faces. You didn’t just ruin things for yourself. You ruined them for me and sharon too. Good job. (Man) what if my type 2 diabetes takes over?

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Phyllis: Hey, sorry I’m late. I think I dozed off and–

Daniel: Is it tough for you to be in this room after the gala with your collapse and stark?

Summer: Or maybe, you’re remembering being a guest at your own funeral? Watching us all in pain, grieving?

Phyllis: Hey, you know what, I’m letting that go. I’m gonna let that go. Move on. I hope you can too.

[ Daniel scoffing ] It’s the past. I can’t change it. I’m really a different person now, so… I mean, I really am. I swear it. You know, I used to think the most significant second chance I had was building the grand phoenix. My rise from the ashes, you know.

[ Phyllis chuckling ] That’s not, um– that’s not my most significant second chance. My most significant second chance is my future… with you two. My beautiful children. I’m committed to rebuilding my life. I really am. I’m gonna do whatever it takes, guys, to earn your forgiveness. I really am. I really want to. No more missteps, okay? Anyway, I– I’m glad that we can all spend some time right now because I have a decision to make and I want your input. What do you think about me going to work for adam newman?

[ Daniel laughing ]

Nick: You just can’t let go of this ridiculous need to take back newman media.

Adam: Look, if I even thought that I can make you understand where I’m coming from–

Nick: Don’t bother. Did you really think you could pull one over victor newman? Our company is under the newman umbrella. He agreed to our terms. He gave us three months, free reign, and it’s not enough for you.

Adam: Listen to me. This isn’t about me. No matter what you think, it’s about us and our plans for the new company, okay? Once we get rolling, newman media is going to be redundant, so why should we wait three months when we can start making moves right now?

Nick: Just stop and think about it. Dad says he’s taking over, then he immediately leaves the country because he says he needs to secure financing, really? Our father can get someone to drop a million bucks with a phone call. Don’t you see what’s going on here?

Sharon: Nick and i have worked very well together in the past. And nick and adam, they’ve crossed paths at newman from time to time. Yes, this is new territory for us as a trio. It is a partnership made up of three people who view things very differently, so there’ll be a learning curve.

Mariah: That’s one way of putting it.

Sharon: But we’re figuring it out. There will be challenges, sure, but, you know, that’s exciting. Each of us brings unique skills and experience to the table.

Tessa: Sharon, you bring an entire company. Boss lady, inspiring us per usual. I do love that you’re an inspiration for our little girl.

Sharon: Well, thank you, tessa. And I feel confident that nick and adam and I, despite our differences, will accomplish great and positive things. We’ll give as good as we get, that’s for sure. And I think that’s the most exciting part of this new venture. Oh, and that brings me to an important question. Would you ever consider leaving jabot to come work with your mother? Even when I was with the people I love,

Mariah: Um, I… was not expecting that. You really want me to come work for you?

Sharon: With me. And yes, definitely.

Mariah: You know that I– I still work at jabot, right? I– I mean, I– I’ve put in a few hours here and there when I can, just crisis management stuff. But my maternity leave is about to end and I was planning on going back full time.

Sharon: No, I’m aware of that and we can talk about that in a second, but first of all, in a perfect world, no jabot, would you consider it?

Mariah: Maybe? I– I don’t know. I mean, what would I even be doing?

Sharon: Director of marketing, vice president of marketing or whatever title you think is good for you. We need someone vibrant, creative, forward thinking, someone with a strong vision who isn’t afraid to think out of the box.

Tessa: I mean, that’s you, babe.

Sharon: And with your background, power communications, jabot, do I need to even mention gc buzz? You understand media relations and image building better than anyone else I can think of. I want this company to exude positive energy and community strength. I want it to launch with excitement and fanfare and who better to lead that charge than you?

Tessa: I mean, yeah, she’s describing you. This could be an amazing opportunity.

Sharon: Of course, I would understand if you would never even consider jumping ship because you’re perfectly happy at jabot. Are you?

Daniel: Okay, so let me get this straight. The first stop on your apology tour is to tell us that you’re gonna be working side by side with adam newman?

Summer: Yeah, mom. Adam? Seriously, I would think that somebody looking to clean up their image might choose somebody a little less, I don’t know, shady?

Phyllis: Oh, come on. Give me a chance here. You don’t even know what the position is yet. I’m– he is running what used to be mccall unlimited. And your grandfather acquired the business. You don’t know about it? I would think that someone would tell you about it. But he’s making it a media platform, basically and I’m gonna be the it whiz.

Daniel: Mom.

Phyllis: [ Laughs ] Come on, I have bills to pay. I have children. I have legal fees. Michael was gonna give me the friends and family discount, but I don’t know if heather’s gonna do the same thing. And I’m sure I have to pay back that life insurance policy that jeremy stark claimed. I don’t know where he stashed that money. He took half of what was in my bank account, and then, all my assets are frozen until after the trial.

Daniel: Okay, if it’s money, if money’s a problem, then I can help with that.

Summer: Yeah, I could too.

Phyllis: No, I don’t want a handout from my children. I appreciate it. Thank you. But I want to work. I want to be busy. I want to be a productive citizen of the community. It’ll keep my mind busy. You know, before I have to face the trial.

Summer: Look, mom, I get the instinct to want to get to work. I mean, that is the only thing that’s keeping me sane right now. But adam? He’s not gonna help you polish that shiny new reputation that you’re going for. Why don’t I try to find you something at marchetti? I mean, maybe, you could come back to the home division.

Phyllis: No, that’s not a good idea. Working for marchetti. But thank you. So sweet. Listen, guys, adam isn’t doing me a favor. He’s offered me a high level position based on my skills. He doesn’t feel sorry for me. It’s just business.

Daniel: Yeah, but it’s also adam.

Phyllis: I can handle adam. There’s just one other little part that I’m worried about.

Daniel: Okay. What are you worried about?

Phyllis: Uh, his partners are nick and sharon. You know– you know, I can tolerate sharon. We tolerate each other. We’re fine, we’re fine, it’s– it’s nick, um… I don’t think he’ll ever forgive me… for what my actions cost you.

Adam: Okay, nick. Well, what don’t I see? Tell me.

Nick: It is a test. Dad’s doing what he’s doing because your stubbornness and your obsession demanded a reaction. So, he provided one. So, this is where we are.

Adam: What are you talking about?

Nick: [ Sighs ] Dad lays down the law and then he just slips off into the shadows because he wants to see how we’re gonna react. Are we gonna follow his orders? Are we gonna kill each other? Are we gonna attempt to do what we wanna do despite dad saying that we can’t do anything right now and sit tight?

Adam: Yeah, that does sound like our father.

Nick: Of course it does. It’s an impossible situation. There’s no way to move forward. If we follow through with our plans, despite dad’s orders, then we look disobedient. Or we can just sit around and do nothing. Wait for him to tell us what to do, and then, we look ineffective, like we’re just wasting time.

[ Scoffs ] It’s a lose-lose.

Adam: Then, I say, the lesser of two evils is the way to go.

Nick: So, you’re gonna make me guess?

Adam: Look, if we lose momentum now, we might as well forget about the whole thing. So, I vote we don’t wait for a sign from the great victor newman. We do what is right for business now. We call dad’s bluff.

Nick: So, call dad’s bluff. You think that’s the play?

Adam: I think it beats sitting on our hands.

Nick: And what exactly does that mean for you? Does that mean getting your hands on newman media, even though that’s a sticking point for dad? Because if that is the case, adam, I’m not down with that.

Adam: Why not?

Nick: Because that has nothing to do with moving our business forward.

Adam: Yes, it does.

Nick: It has nothing to do with being proactive. That is about you settling old scores, no matter what you pretend to call it. You know, the three of us, we got together, we talked about our ideas, we were excited about it. We were ready to implement them. But then, this newman media foolishness, and it is foolish, adam, is holding everything up. So I gotta say, it’s easy to be on dad’s side with this one.

Adam: Okay. Well then, what is your idea to prove to dad that we deserve to remain in control?

Nick: We let the world know that we mean business. That adustus, along with kirsten’s old company, is ready to be a powerhouse. We make a splash. Some big launch event, something that lets our colleagues and puts our competitors on notice. We get everybody talking. Fortune favors the bold and all that. Dad will see that his faith in us was justified. Maybe we get his support. Wouldn’t it be amazing to get his approval? And for god’s sakes, man, change the company’s name. Adustus? It symbolizes everything that is wrong with your approach.

Mariah: You know how much I love working at jabot. But I have to admit, things there are a little shaky right now. There seems to be some kind of power struggle going on.

Sharon: Really?

Mariah: When I talked to kyle, he made it seem like it was connected to diane who’s engaged to jack, and tucker who’s involved with ashley again, and something about a coup. I don’t really know, but it made me feel like my work environment was unstable. Possibly likely to get more so. You know how much I respect jack. But kyle is the one who hired me. He’s the whole reason that I was drawn to jabot in the first place, and now that he’s left altogether– I will explain another time, but the bottom line is he has left his family company for a position at newman media.

Sharon: He needed a change, and maybe, you do, too.

[ Mariah scoffing ]

Mariah: Maybe. But it would be a big move and I don’t want to leave jack in the lurch.

Sharon: Well, I can talk to jack for you if you want. I know he will understand. He knows how special it is to work with family.

Mariah: And how treacherous.

Sharon: Well, that’s not gonna be an issue with us.

Tessa: I don’t want to discount your loyalty because it’s what we all love about you, but is anyone at jabot thinking about you right now? How you might be caught in the crossfire of a family feud? I mean, the tap dancing you’ll have to do with the press.

Mariah: Well–

Tessa: Okay, forget all of that right now. What are your exceptional instincts telling you to do? What do you really want?

Summer: You don’t think that dad can forgive you? I mean, is he really that angry? If he is, he hasn’t let me know.

Phyllis: Well, he knows how much you’ve been through. He’s not gonna heap all his anger on you. I was spiraling out of control.

Daniel: Yeah. Yeah. But nick knows that the situation got out of hand.

Phyllis: Yeah. But who was the one who brought jeremy stark into genoa city? I did that. And it was wrong. I should have just let diane show her true colors because she was gonna do that. She was bound to implode.

Daniel: I think that–

Phyllis: Bound to implode.

Daniel: I think that at some point, the second guessing needs to stop. What happened, happened. Summer and I are just happy that you’re not dead.

Phyllis: That’s so nice of you to say.

Daniel: But if you are constantly looking back, thinking about what you could have done, you know, if you’re feeling ashamed, if you’re stuck in the past then you can’t be here with us in the present. So, I guess if you want, I guess you should take the job with adam.

Summer: Yeah. His company is technically owned by grandpa, right? It’s under the newman umbrella. So, maybe it would be good for your image. I mean, if the newmans can get past everything you did, everyone else should be able to, too.

Phyllis: Maybe. You think your dad could get there?

Summer: Dad cares about you, mom. I mean, you know that he does. Plus, he’s forgiven you for a lot of other terrible things in the past, so.

Phyllis: Yeah, that’s true.

Summer: Look, once he understands everything that you went through and why you did what you did, I mean, you guys will be friends again. Trust me.

Phyllis: Thank you, summer. That means so much coming from you. From prom dresses…

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

What can you do

with sensitive skin?

Adam: Okay. Uh, let’s hear your brilliant ideas. What should the company name be?

Nick: Something that doesn’t hinge on destruction or revenge. I mean, adustus literally in latin means “to burn.” We should come up with something as a team.

Adam: Okay. Like what? The terrific trio? The gleeful threesome? I know, we could call ourselves the three stooges!

Nick: For once can you stop being so defensive?

Adam: What are you talking about? You don’t like those suggestions?

Nick: We need to get sharon’s input. She’s literally bringing an entire tech company to the table. She should have some say in this.

Adam: Sharon, she’s fine with adustus.

Nick: Are you sure about that?

Adam: It feels like I’m striking out with you left and right.

Nick: Adam, all your ideas come from a place of wounded pride and rejection. I mean, it’s obvious, your need to take back newman media is just so you can teach victoria a lesson for being dad’s chosen one and for firing sally way back then. Can’t you just let it go and move on? Do you know how many times I’ve been left out of the inner circle? More times than I can count. But I’d like to think that I’ve left all that rejection and pain behind me and I’m in a much better place now.

Adam: Oh, that’s how you deal with rejection, huh?

Nick: A lot of what victoria’s doing, I don’t like. But there isn’t anything I can do about it now that I’ve been pushed out of my coo position. But I’m going to embrace this new venture as a way to get out of the inner circle. It’s a chance to break free and we can both benefit from that, adam.

Phyllis: Seriously, you two are such kind, compassionate human beings. I wish I could take credit, but I can’T. I can’T. The credit goes to your fathers.

Summer: Mom.

Phyllis: No, it does. I wish, I wish that I could be more like danny romalotti and nick newman. I’m working on it. So, I take the job with adam, right?

Daniel: Yeah. Sounds like there’s a “but” in there.

Phyllis: Well, I’m facing a murder trial. So, yeah, I mean, if I can’t beat this, if christine gets what she has always, always wanted, me in a jail cell for the rest of my life, it won’t matter if I take a job or don’t take a job. I mean, if I can’t beat this and I can’t clear my name, then it really won’t matter about a new and improved phyllis because the new and improved phyllis will just be sitting in a jail cell talking to her cellmates about what used to be.

Tessa: You know I don’t want to pressure you.

Mariah: I know.

Tessa: I just want you to put yourself first.

Mariah: You and aria come first, always and forever.

Sharon: I don’t wanna pressure you either, mariah, but the sooner you could let me know–

Mariah: Okay, mom, I will think it through.

Sharon: [ Laughs ] Of course. And again, as much as I would love to have you a part of this team, I will completely understand if you decide to stay at jabot. Or at least I’ll pretend to.

[ Laughing ] Okay, I gotta get going. I have a meeting with nick and adam. Cutie.

[ All chuckling ]

Mariah: Hey. It is really nice to see you so happy about this new venture. I feel like it’s the perfect antidote to the horror that you’ve been through.

Sharon: It has been incredibly healing. And I haven’t been this excited about something in a long time.

[ Mariah chuckling ]

Mariah: Come here. So I didn’t think I needed swiffer,

Summer: Thinking the worst, it’s not gonna help your situation. Once you get in front of a jury, they’re gonna understand why you did what you did. And, I mean, you have a witness, carson, who’s gonna make them understand.

Phyllis: Yeah. If he comes through for me.

Daniel: What do you mean if? He already gave his statement, he’s gonna testify at the trial, he’s gonna paint a picture of how you found yourself in an impossible situation.

Phyllis: Right. I mean, but sometimes people say they’re gonna do something and then they decide not to do it. Or they do what they care about for themselves versus what’s the right thing to do.

Summer: Mom, no more doom and gloom. New job, right? New you.

Daniel: And… you have our support. And our love.

Summer: Yeah. And heather is fighting for you, mom. Michael’s already clued her into all of christine’s tricks and she’s got a few of her own, I’m sure.

Phyllis: That’s true.

Summer: Everything’s gonna be okay.

Phyllis: Okay.

Summer: You’ve got to believe that.

Phyllis: Okay.

[ Phyllis chuckling ]

Tessa: Oh, she’s still asleep.

Mariah: Okay. So, what do you really think about me possibly leaving jabot to work for sharon?

Tessa: Well, in spite of what kyle said about some internal conflict brewing, jabot has been around for a long time. It’s a leader in the cosmetics industry. It’s not going anywhere.

Mariah: And sharon’s new company combines two faltering entities, mccall and cameron kirsten’s firm. Reinvention is good, but maybe stability, predictability are better.

Tessa: And adam’s in the mix. I mean, is that a good thing? I mean, maybe his contributions make the company a success. But what’s the working environment like? I mean, sharon deserves a pleasant, stress-free workplace.

Mariah: That is a very good point. I mean, sharon and nick, great. Sharon, nick and adam? Maybe not so great. And once upon a time, adam was obsessed with sharon and now I guess it– it’s sally, but who knows what’s next for that guy?

[ Both laughing ] But on the flip side, how stressful and uncomfortable is it gonna get at jabot?

Tessa: Hmm. I know that you want to look at every angle, assess every risk, but you’re not gonna have complete information to make this decision. You’re gonna have to trust your judgment. What do you think will give you the best chance at success and happiness?

Adam: Freedom. Liberty. Libertas.

Nick: Come on, man. Just stop it.

Adam: What? Come on, bro. Freedom. I mean, that’s what you were just talking about, wasn’t it?

[ Nick sighing ]

Sharon: Gentlemen. What did I miss?

Adam: Oh, you know, nick was just trying to get us to change the name of the company.

Sharon: Really?

Adam: Okay, look, fine. Adustus did come from a dark place. I will accept that. But that’s how I felt. I felt burned and I was ready to go scorched earth, but it doesn’t mean that my ideas for the company are not sound. And you’re never going to convince me that it isn’t redundant and stupid that our new company and newman media are separate entities under the same corporate structure.

Sharon: Look, adam, we’re all coming at this having just faced major shifts in our lives. We need to look at our new venture as a reinvention, a way to shed old negative ways and look toward a positive future.

Nick: I was just telling adam the exact same thing.

Adam: Hm. And by negativity, you mean me? Let’s be honest, how many times have you, and nick, for that matter, done your best to try to get me to change course? I mean, really tried to get me to do what you thought was best. How many times has it worked? I mean, you two knew what you were getting with me. Do you honestly believe that it’ll be possible for me to change? My a1c was up here; now, it’s down with rybelsus.

Summer: Thanks.

Daniel: Yeah, did you, uh, happen to notice the way mom reacted when we started talking about carson?

Summer: Yeah. She seemed really scared. And it– it didn’t seem like a general fear of the unknown or a fear of going to prison. I mean, it felt, like, weirdly specific, like there’s a problem and she’s not telling us about it.

Daniel: What do you think it is?

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: I don’t know. The first time mom brought up carson to me, she was saying that she would have to pay him off to get him to back her claim that stark was threatening her.

Daniel: Yeah, but I mean, you wanted to take it one step further, didn’t you? You wanted him to say that he saw mom kill stark in self-defense.

Summer: Okay. It was just an idea, all right? Mom shut me down anyway.

Daniel: You know, last time we talked to michael, he made it sound like carson was the key to getting all these charges against mom dropped. If he didn’t really see anything…

Summer: That means that he’s lying. But in exchange for what? And we don’t know anything about the statement that he made to the police. But do we really think that mom is on board with perjury now?

Daniel: I don’t know. But I can tell you this. There’s definitely more to the story than mom’s willing to tell us.

Mariah: Helping sharon launch something new, something that means so much to her? That would just fill my heart up. You know, getting to ride alongside her as she goes into this new venture, I– I love that.

Tessa: And I love it for you. And maybe that outweighs everything else. You’d be taking a risk here. But from what you said, staying at jabot might be a risk, too.

Mariah: True.

Tessa: And I’ve never known you to back away from a challenge.

Mariah: You want me to do this, don’t you?

Tessa: I want you to do what you want to do.

Mariah: [ Laughing ] Okay.

Tessa: But jabot was important to you when you were working with kyle. And it’s still a nice job, but it’s just a job. This, on the other hand, is something special. I mean, you’d be a part of building something, maybe something just as long lasting as jabot in the long run. And you’d be working with sharon. I mean, the way you light up when you talk about working with her, what a wonderful example for aria. And what a great opportunity for the woman I love.

Mariah: You know me so well.

Sharon: You would like to pretend that you’re irredeemable, a lost cause. You wear it like a medal that you want us all to see. But this is me here and I know better. I think nick does, too.

Nick: Yeah, it’s hard for me to admit, but I’ve seen glimpses of the human being inside there. And as I was saying, I know how the bitterness can get when the exclusion and the pain is piled on. It can be a vicious cycle.

Adam: Okay, just stop. I’ve– I’ve heard enough from you two, okay? You win. Positive energy only from here on out. That’ll be the goal, at least. No more chip on the shoulder. Okay, but I’ll do my best. I’m not gonna promise anything I can’t 100% deliver on.

Nick: Fair enough.

Adam: And to hell with victoria. Forget about her and forget about victor and his tests and his mind games.

Sharon: What tests and mind games?

Adam: You know, it doesn’t even matter because we have work to do. And I’m not gonna think about newman media for the time being. But you should know, before this enlightening conversation, I made a move without consulting with you.

Sharon: What kind of a move?

Adam: I offered phyllis a job. Head of it.

Nick: You did what? You offered phyllis a key position in this company? She broke my daughter’s heart. She ruined summer’s marriage. She’s probably on her way to a life sentence for murder. What were you thinking?

[ Phone ringing ]

Adam: Oh, speak of the devil. Phyllis.

Phyllis: Hey. I’ve decided to accept your job offer. But listen, um… I’m gonna need your help with something first.

Recap written by Terry

Nick and Adam discussed their father’s recent change of plans regarding Augusta, the faltering company Victor bought from Tucker McCall for Adam to revamp and run.  When Victor called his family to the ranch to issue orders about running Newman Enterprises, he directed Nick to work with Adam.  In the same conversation, Victor said he gave his children too much leeway and control, and Victor stated that he himself calls the shots from now on.  Nick hesitantly agreed to work with Adam but Adam walked out when Victor firmly told Adam he could take it or leave Victor’s new approach and plans.  Adam later changed his mind, as Nick predicted he would.

Nick suspected that Adam did something to annoy Victor into later changing the arrangement that would have allowed Nick, Adam and Sharon to run Augusta for three months as they saw fit before Victor would reassess the arrangement.  Adam denied angering Victor into pulling the rug from underneath them, as Nick put it, and eliminating the agreed to three month arrangement.

Nick was suspicious when his father said he had to go to Germany to secure funding for a project.  Nick scoffed and said Victor could get a million dollars’ funding with one phone call.  Nick said Victor lay down the law then slipped into the shadows to see how Nick, Sharon and Adam would react to Victor’s order to do nothing until Victor told them what to do.  Adam said he wanted to call Victor’s bluff and get started working on the company without Victor’s directive.  A frustrated Nick said the whole situation is impossible, because if they begin work on the company without Victor’s orders they look disobedient, but if they wait for Victor they look ineffective.

When Sharon joined Adam and Nick to discuss their approach to running the business, Sharon told Adam he wore his lost cause persona like a medal, and Nick added that he occasionally sees glimpses of a human being in Adam. Adam glibly stated that it’s all positivity from now on and no more chip on his shoulder.

Adam told Nick and Sharon that he offered Phyllis a Web Designer position. Nick rejected that and asked Adam what was he thinking.  After discussing her financial woes with her children, Phyllis called to accept Adam’s offer, but said she needed help with something first.

Prior to that phone call to Adam, Phyllis met with Summer and Daniel and told them she will do whatever it takes to earn their forgiveness. Phyllis stated she is a different person and wants to be a busy, productive citizen as she awaits trial for murdering Jeremy Stark. She told her children she accepted a job offer from Adam. Summer observed that if Phyllis wanted to clean up her image, she might want to do it with someone a little less shady than Adam.

Daniel told Summer he thinks there is more to Phyllis’ involvement with Carson, the paramedic Tucker is hiding. Phyllis has stated prior that Tucker and Carson have her whole life in their hands.

At Sharon’s coffee house, Sharon asked Mariah if she would consider leaving Jabot to work with her at the company she will run with Nick and Adam. Sharon said Mariah knows media relations and image building more than anyone she knows and Mariah could create her own job title, such as Vice President of Marketing. Tessa states it would be an amazing opportunity for Mariah.

Diane: Despite what you might think, billy, jack and i are getting married today because we love each other. There’s– there’s no games, no hidden agendas, except, I don’t know, maybe to prove to you all that our love is strong and to get you to just leave us alone!

Ashley: Bravo! My god, that was good, diane. One of your very, very best performances.

Jack: Stop it, ashley, right now.

Ashley: Do you really think we’re going to buy into this charade, jack?

Jack: I don’t care what you buy, this love is real. And nothing you can do or say is going to change that fact.

Billy: I think that’s the problem, jack.

Jack: Who the hell asked for your opinion?

Billy: What, am I no longer a member of the abbott family?

Jack: What, you can’t see what’s going on here? Tucker and ashley are using diane to get their greedy hands on our family’s business.

Billy: All I’m seeing is you blindly jumping off a cliff.

Jack: No, my eyes are wide open. I cannot believe I’m hearing this out of you.

Ashley: You’re just as melodramatic as she is.

Jack: And you are a hypocrite. I can’t believe you’re trying to take the high road when you’re doing business and god knows what else with this cretin.

Tucker: I’m just standing here.

Jack: You feel free to leave any time you like.

Ashley: He’s not going anywhere, jack.

Jack: Oh, you two so richly deserve each other.

Ashley: I’m the one who has their eyes wide open and not you. You’re the fool.

Traci: What’s going on here? Please stop. Can’t you give them one day? Can’t you give jack and diane one day of happiness without trying to tear each other apart? Thank you.

Tucker: Pleasure to see you. Congratulations in advance.

[ Door shuts closed ]

Audra: You know, eventually we’re going to have to limit these delightful afternoon escapes and actually get some work done.

Kyle: I find myself inspired and excited by these meetings. Besides, we have all afternoon to work.

Audra: I– I know, kyle, but we need to bring our a game for the next few months. Adam and his new company are dead set on making newman media redundant.

Kyle: Yeah, he can try.

Audra: You seem pretty confident.

Kyle: I beat him once. There’s no doubt in my mind I can do it again.

Adam: Apparently, you wasted no time telling victoria about my idea to merge our new company with newman media.

Victor: Of course, I did. She’s the ceo of my company, son.

Adam: You knew damn well that she was going to tell nate, and that nate would back audra.

Victor: I don’t give a damn who she told. It doesn’t make a bit of a difference.

Adam: I told you that in strict confidence. I mean, knowledge is power, isn’t that what you– you have always preached to us? And now, you just took it away from me and you gave it to the enemy.

Victor: Please have a seat. Son… why do you continue to perceive the other divisions of newman enterprises as your enemies? I mean, you’re a part of the company. What’s the matter with you?

Adam: All I see right now is you disregarding my judgement, once again.

Victor: I told you that I would fold your company, your new company that I gave to you into newman enterprises. Then, I asked you and sharon and nick to work together for three months collaboratively, productively, all right? But that can’t happen if you keep on bulldozing over anyone that you perceive to be enemy.

Adam: I haven’t bulldozed over anybody.

Victor: Son, you’re about to do it. I know you. Ain’t gonna work. If you can’t see how good it is to be united as a family, how productive that is, then I’m going to have to change your perspective.

[ Audra sighing ]

Audra: So, how exactly did you beat adam?

Kyle: By playing the long game. Giving him enough rope to hang himself, which he eventually did. Then, it was easy to take advantage of the situation and force him out of jabot.

Audra: Easy, huh?

Kyle: Look, adam is not that complicated of a guy. He’s an angry boy with daddy issues and a short fuse. He’ll self-destruct if you give him the chance. Once he does, you show him the door.

Audra: Ooh. You have more of a ruthless streak than I thought. I like it.

Ashley: Hi.

Abby: Hi!

Ashley: I’m sorry I’m late.

Abby: Oh, that’s okay. I just got here. So I have a list of wedding planners, but I need to know what you and tucker are thinking for the ceremony. Obviously, the house can accommodate whatever you’re thinking. Okay, um, what’s wrong?

Ashley: I just had a very unpleasant afternoon I spent with jack and diane.

Abby: Really?

Ashley: Yes.

Abby: What happened now?

Ashley: Jack is about to make the worst mistake of his life. That’s what happened.

[ Sighing ]

Judge: We are celebrating the marriage of jack and diane. You didn’t live this strong,

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Abby: So uncle jack and diane are getting married right now?

Ashley: In the city hall as we speak. Yes, right now.

Abby: Okay, well, that’s kind of sudden.

Ashley: Yeah, it is. And infuriating.

Abby: But it’s really not, I mean, all that sudden. I mean, it’s kind of like what you and tucker are doing, right?

Ashley: Please don’t make that comparison.

Abby: Mom, you need to calm down. Why are you so angry?

Ashley: I’m angry because I told you, my brother is about to throw away the rest of his life, honey.

Abby: But it’s his life.

Ashley: You can’t be serious.

Abby: All I’m saying is that you need to let uncle jack live his life and you can focus on your life and your happiness. I mean, do you really hate diane that much?

Ashley: This isn’t just about jack’s marriage or his life. This is about the company he’s made diane a part of. My family’s company. Our family’s company.

Abby: Right, but I mean, you and tucker are starting your own business, right? Why are you so concerned with the family’s company?

Ashley: You don’t understand.

Abby: I think I do understand, but you’re not going to like what I have to say. This anger that you have towards diane, I mean, this fury, it’s like you’re holding on to it like a blanket. But maybe it’s anger that you feel toward yourself.

[ Ashley scoffing ]

Tucker: Hey, billy. Wow, I didn’t expect to see you here now.

Billy: Why is that?

Tucker: Well, I figured you’d make an appearance at jack’s wedding. But I guess you’re as opposed to it as you claim.

[ Diane chuckling ]

Diane: We’re actually doing this, aren’t we? Oh, we’ve had quite a journey, huh? Hello, jack.

Jack: No. It can’t be.

Diane: It’s true. I’ve waited a very long time for this moment. I’m trying to make amends.

Jack: To me! Not to the people you hurt. The people you used and exploited. The people accused of your murder. All you left in your wake was heartache and fear and anger. Some of us got over it. Others, like kyle? You stole from him something he can never get back.

Diane: Back in L.A., I– uh, I hid my past. I was living a lie. I– I couldn’t get close to anybody because of it. And here in genoa city, I am dodging grenades, but I have to earn my conversations and my companionship. I have to face the damage that I’ve done head on. But being here with you today and talking about kyle and harrison and being open about my past, it… almost makes me feel normal. And, uh, gives me hope for my future.

Jack: I can see this has been tough on you. My advice? Take the clean slate kyle and I have offered you.

Diane: I appreciate you so much. You have the least reasons of anyone to make me feel worthy, believed, safe. And yet, you do. I like who I am when I’m with you. And that hasn’t been the case for a really long time.

Jack: I happen to like who I am with you, too.

Diane: When you talk to me, I believe you completely.

Jack: Good. I believe in you. It’s like this is a whole new layer to you. There was always beauty, there was always strength, there was always wit, but now there’S… this level of courage that I never expected. And I find it very attractive.

[ Diane chuckling ] I am happy. For the first time in I can’t tell you how long, I have such a positive view of the future. And I’ll tell you something else.

Diane: What?

Jack: I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure I stay this happy. Having you back in my life again has given me energy and optimism and purpose and happiness I thought I had lost forever. I will be damned if jeremy stark or anyone else takes that from us. I love you too much.

Diane: God, jack, I… I love you, too. It’s– it’s almost– almost overpowering, like, this love that’s been pent up, and it’s finally able to be free.

Jack: I have another idea. Marry me.

Diane: Jack, you’re right. This is our time, so… yes! Yes! A thousand times yes!

[ Both chuckling ] I– I’ve wanted to be your wife for so long. And finally, now here we are, right in this moment, exactly where we’re supposed to be. You and me, together at last.

[ Diane laughing ] How is this even possible?

[ Sighing ] But it is. And it’s real. And I promise… I will put our happiness above everything. And I will make our home a sanctuary for our family. We’ve– we’ve always shared a son, and now we’re going to share a life. [ Chuckling ] I really never imagined that I could be this happy, but I am. And it’s all because of you. I love you so much.

Jack: Diane, I had all but given up on sharing my life with anyone. I thought that part of my life was over. Seeing you standing here so beautiful, ready to become my bride, I could not be any luckier that I was so very wrong.

[ Diane laughing ] You’re right, it’s been a long way here. And what we have is not simple, it’s not traditional… but I wouldn’t have it any other way. You are my life. You are my heart. You are my love. I love you.

[ Diane chuckling ]

[ Diane sighing ]

Judge: Do you, jack, take diane to be your wife?

Jack: I do.

[ Diane laughing ]

Judge: And do you, diane, take jack to be your husband?

Diane: I do. [ Sighing ]

Judge: I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride!

[ Diane laughing ]

Diane: I love you. Oh, you have just made me the happiest woman in the world.

Jack: That is now my most important job in life, mrs. Diane jenkins abbott.

[ Diane giggling ] My active psoriatic arthritis

Victor: Pitting one division against the other is not part of my master plan.

Adam: Am I even part of your master plan?

Victor: Son, you need to be put in your place. You need to be taught some humility because obviously you can’t find it on your own! What I am going to change now is I’m going to put the damn brakes on this entire endeavor. That’s it!

Billy: Why would you be surprised that I didn’t support jack on his big wedding day? You were standing right there. You know exactly how I feel about it.

Tucker: It’s just been my experience that the abbott clan tends to bury the hatchet for special occasions.

Billy: Yeah, this is not a special occasion to me.

Tucker: Okay. Guess I was wrong.

Billy: Actually, the more I think about it, tucker, the more it pisses me off. Because my brother is losing his mind.

Tucker: I tend to agree. But where does that leave you exactly? You just going to have to let it go, or have you finally had enough?

Ashley: Please, I am not in the mood for your analysis, okay? Please.

Abby: Okay, I’m sorry, mom, but maybe you could just consider the possibility that– that you’re thinking it’s a mistake getting sucked back into tucker’s world again.

Ashley: I don’T.

Abby: Mom.

Ashley: We are getting married at your place. I mean, what more of a commitment do you want?

Abby: That’s not what I mean.

Ashley: Okay, well, we love each other. I told you that, didn’t I? There’s no doubts, period.

Abby: Okay. Fine.

Ashley: Fine. You don’t believe me.

Abby: Honestly, mom, I don’t know what to believe at this point. Because the other night, I’m looking at the two of you and I thought, “yeah, maybe– maybe it is true love.” But now I have to believe what is right in front of me. You are angry with uncle jack for doing the exact same thing with diane as what you are doing with tucker. Closing their eyes. You– you’re taking this leap of faith. And it’s– I don’t know, maybe my worry is what it’s been all along. That you don’t actually trust tucker.

Ashley: Okay.

Abby: And that your instincts are screaming at you to put this thing on pause.

[ Abby sighing ]

[ Door shuts closed ]

Diane: Now that we’re officially married, what happens next?

Jack: Oh, I planned a dinner at the club with all your favorite things.

Diane: That includes you, I hope.

Jack: Oh, I wouldn’t miss it for the world.

Diane: Hm. Then what?

Jack: And then champagne, maybe a little dancing.

Diane: Ah, sounds heavenly.

Jack: But first, first I want to take my beautiful wife upstairs and make love to her.

[ Both moaning ]

[ Both chuckling ]

[ Diane sighing ] My a1c was up here; now, it’s down with rybelsus. With cirkul, your water is deliciously flavored at the turn of a dial, with zero sugar and zero calories. Jack: You know what I want to do now?

Diane: Stay just like this, wrapped in each other’s arms all night long?

Jack: Exactly.

Diane: What about dinner and dancing?

Jack: Oh, we can do that any time. This is our one and only wedding night.

[ Diane chuckling ]

Diane: It’s been magical. It has.

Jack: So, can I, uh– can I take that as a yes?

Diane: Ah, well, it sounds amazing, but what about our plan? I thought that part of the reason you wanted to go out on our wedding night was so that we could stage that fight with billy for ashley’s benefit?

Jack: But we kind of did that.

Diane: Yeah, we did a pre-wedding, but now that it’s official–

Jack: Yeah, I know you’re right. We have to up the ante. We have to make it important. We have to escalate things.

Diane: And it would be a lot more convincing.

Jack: On the night of our wedding, yeah.

Diane: Yeah.

Jack: Billy has to get on the inside with ashley and tucker and figure out what the hell is planned for jabot.

Diane: Are you having second thoughts?

Jack: No, no. I just don’t want this to end. I want– I want to stay this way. You and me in each other’s arms, the world and all its troubles a thousand miles away.

Diane: I want that, too. More than you know. But this– this war with your sister is– is tearing you apart. And eventually, it’s going to tear us apart. So, we have to stop it. We have to stop her. Otherwise, we’ll never be free of it. Right?

Jack: Yeah.

Ashley: I thought you said you were happy for us.

Abby: I want to be happy for you, I do, but–

Ashley: Shh, shh.

Tucker: Hey.

Ashley: Hi.

Abby: Hi.

Tucker: Everything okay?

Ashley: Not really. I’m still trying to process that awful news about jack.

Tucker: Oh, yeah. Billy and I were just– we were just commiserating about that, weren’t we?

Billy: No, I would not say we were commiserating, tucker. In fact, let me be very clear about something, okay? You and I, we will never be friends. Just not going to happen. What I like or dislike about whatever jack is doing has nothing to do with you or your twisted agenda. All I care about is how this affects my family and you are not family. So, hear this, and remember this, everything I do, or may do in the future, is about the people I love.

[ Adam sighing ]

Adam: Can we just drop this song and dance? Are you going to pull the plug on adustus? Are you going to throw me out of the family yet again?

Victor: For your information, I have never thrown anyone out of my family, nor will I ever do so.

Adam: Yeah, that’s, um, not how it looks from my side.

Victor: Whenever you’ve left, and you have left repeatedly on your own volition… it has broken my heart.

Adam: Oh, yes. You always make that abundantly clear. Why? So we come crawling back and we have to tell you how sorry we are for breaking your heart? Dad, I am tired of crawling.

Victor: Do you know how tired I am of your attitude? I’ve tried for years to make you feel all right! I’ve tried to put you and nicholas together to work in harmony! To create harmony in this family! What do you do? You rebel! I’m tired of this! You know… to answer your question, I am not going to pull the plug on adustus-kirsten… but I am going to change your involvement in it.

Traci: Oh, my goodness, you look particularly handsome.

Jack: Thank you. And thank you for being at the courthouse with us today. That meant the world to me.

Traci: Of course. Of course, I would be there for you, jack. I can see that the love you share with diane is genuine, and I never would have predicted that.

Jack: Yeah, you and me both.

[ Traci laughing]

Traci: I’m just so glad to see you so happy. I know that diane completes that circle.

Jack: I wish the rest of the family could see what you see.

Traci: I’m sorry that ashley and billy can’t accept your joy.

Jack: Yeah, I’m afraid it’s a lot worse than that.

Traci: I know. And I hate that our family is at such odds, especially with all the work you and ashley have been doing to make peace. And now, it seems like it’s worse than ever, jack.

Jack: Yeah, I’m afraid you might be right.

Traci: Then, I’m sorry for us all.

Jack: Well, look, maybe things will calm down. Maybe ashley and i can find our way back to each other, but in the meantime, things could get really ugly and you need to prepare yourself. Wow. Moving forward with node- positive breast cancer

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Adam: So, I was right the first time. You’re cutting me loose.

Victor: No, I’m stepping in to protect you from yourself. What you do now is up to you.

[ Adam sighing ]

Adam: Why even bother? I mean, isn’t that the definition of insanity? Just repeating and repeating the same action, hoping for a different result?

Victor: Adam, then meet me halfway, son.

Adam: [ Laughing ] Listen, there is no halfway. There is your way. And I– I never seem to measure up to that.

Victor: I run this company! I run this family! I am the head of it! You have got to understand it once and for all! Stop fighting me! I’ve been hoping for years that you would get rid of your anger and resentment toward me because you grew up without a father on that farm in kansas. That’s not my fault. That’s your mother’s fault! I keep on hoping that you would become the son I always wanted you to be.

Adam: Okay, but then, what if I say you are right, I am wrong and I will let go of everything newman media. Will that change anything? I mean, not that I don’t appreciate these little pep talks, but where are we, dad, exactly? Will the adustus-kirsten deal still go through with me attached as planned?

Tucker: [ Sighs ] Gee, billy, I’m really hurt that you don’t consider me family.

Billy: I’m pretty sure you’ll get over it.

Tucker: Uh, what about diane? Do you consider her family?

Billy: No, I don’T. Actually, I consider you and diane to be in the same boat and I would love nothing more for the both of you to just drift far, far away.

Abby: Okay, on that note, this has been really fun, but I gotta go, I love you. Think about what I said. Goodbye.

Tucker: Bye.

Abby: Bye.

[ Footsteps departing ]

Billy: Still know how to clear a room, don’t you?

Audra: What do you think?

Kyle: We’ve got nothing to hide.

Audra: Not a damn thing.

Ashley: What the hell is that all about?

Tucker: Oh, that? That’s just a couple of coworkers having a platonic drink together.

Ashley: No, I don’t think so. Looks a lot friendlier than that.

Tucker: They do make an excellent couple.

Billy: Hey.

Kyle: Billy.

Billy: Hi.

Audra: Hi.

Billy: So, I take it, you didn’t make it to your mom and dad’s courthouse wedding?

Kyle: I had meetings all afternoon. Couldn’t get away.

Billy: You had meetings all afternoon? You couldn’t get away to go support your mom and dad on their wedding day? Wow. Must be a busy man, kyle.

Diane: I wasn’t expecting to see kyle here tonight.

Jack: No, I wasn’t either.

Diane: [ Sighs ] I really don’t want him around for this.

Jack: Still time to call it off.

Diane: No. Absolutely not.

Tucker: This is when the fun begins. Oh

Victor: [ Sighing ] Son… I wish I could believe it will be as easy as you suggest.

Adam: But you don’T.

[ Victor sighing ]

Victor: I’m afraid that when you suggest that you can let go of the vendetta against me and other members of the family, that you’re just paying lip service to what I want to hear, you know? And that when reality sets in, you will have come up with some other scheme to do it all your own way.

Adam: So then, what is this? Is this a farewell drink? “Thank you for your service, your termination package will be in the mail?”

Victor: No, you know what this is? It’s a warning with a caveat.

Adam: Ah. [ Chuckling ] Of course.

Victor: Listen carefully. I will put the companies together. You and nick and sharon will work under my tutelage. I will dictate the terms. You understand? I want to see… if the three of you can really work together and create a unity. Something I’ve always wanted.

Adam: Well, wow, how lucky could a black sheep get.

Victor: Those are my terms. Take them or leave them.

Adam: I look forward to your lessons. Oh, you should know, I offered phyllis summers head of it.

Victor: I’m sure that was not a joint decision, was it?

Adam: It wasn’T. I guess I just proved your point.

[ Footsteps departing ]

Diane: Kyle. I didn’t expect to see you here.

Jack: Yeah, we thought you had meetings well into the evening.

Kyle: Yeah, one of the meetings got cancelled, so audra and i decided to grab dinner. How was the ceremony?

Diane: Ah, it was– it was lovely, I– I really wish you could have been there. But traci took some pictures.

Kyle: That’s great. Can’t wait to see them.

Jack: Mm-hm. Would have been nice if you showed up.

Billy: Yeah, well, you know how I feel about this.

Jack: Yeah. I thought, maybe, you could set that aside for an afternoon and just show a little support.

Billy: Support what, exactly? A wedding I feel like is irresponsible, at best?

Jack: Easy, billy.

Billy: What, jack? You keep bringing this up like you’re going to get a different response from me. It’s not going to happen, okay? So, let me just say it again, so everyone can hear me, I think this, right here, it’s a mistake. In fact, I think it’s a joke. It’s a disaster waiting to happen. You keep trying to convince me that she’s a changed woman. I’m never going to believe that, okay? Your own son didn’t even show up.

Kyle: Hey, don’t drag me into this. I support my parents.

Billy: Really, kyle, you support your parents? You couldn’t squeeze an hour out of your day to be side by side with them? It’s because you had a voice inside telling you that she’s hurt you before and she’s going to do it again.

Kyle: You’re out of line. What the hell’s gotten into you?

Billy: Knowledge, kid. A leopard never changes its spots, okay? Especially, not that one.

Jack: Okay, that’s enough. I think you’d better leave.

Billy: Leave, jack? What, do you own the place now?

Jack: I am not going to let you destroy this evening. Take a walk.

Billy: Or what?

Jack: Or what?

Billy: Or what?

Tucker: This is getting exciting.

Billy: Open your eyes, jack.

Ashley: I’m not enjoying this, let’s go.

Billy: This woman is going to burn down everything you’ve spent your entire life working for down to the ground.

Jack: This woman is my wife, and I trust her a hell of a lot more than I trust you.

Billy: That’s not saying anything, is it? It’s a total betrayal of every person you’ve cared about, all for diane jenkins.

Jack: I don’t see it that way.

Billy: No, you don’t, jack! That’s the problem. You’re not seeing anything straight, okay? You are going to blow up this family! Kayaking is my thing.

[ Breathing heavily ]

Jack: You want to take this outside?

Billy: Let’s take it outside.

Kyle: Okay, maybe, you need to go somewhere and cool off.

Billy: That’s fine. I’ll leave, okay? She’s gonna tear it down, jack. All of it. The family, jabot, all of it. And that’s going to be on you. I’m done. I’m not following you down that rabbit hole.

Jack: I’m sorry you had to hear that.

Diane: It’s okay. I’ve heard worse.

Kyle: No, mom, it was wrong. I don’t know what the hell has gotten into billy tonight.

Tucker: Hey, jack. Looks like the rats are jumping ship.

Diane: Leave us alone.

Ashley: Diane, you’re going to be alone soon enough, believe me. The walls are crumbling down around you and we’re going to be the final wrecking ball.

[ Footsteps departing ]

Jack: I, uh– I think we need to be alone.

Kyle: Yeah, I understand.

Diane: Okay. Do you think they bought it?

Jack: I don’t know, they seemed to.

Diane: Well, I hope so.

Jack: [ Sighs ] Not exactly the way I wanted to spend my wedding night. But I hope so, too. Come on.

Ashley: What are we going to do about jack?

Announcer: Next week on the young and the restless…

Sharon: Would you ever consider leaving jabot to come work with your mother?

Lily: Since my bowl of fruit wasn’t inspiring for you… you can draw me instead.

Billy: Our sister asked me to join her version of our plan. She wants me to be a trojan horse here in jabot.

Adam: So, what is the real– real reason that you’re here?

Phyllis: I need you to find something to take tucker mccall down.

Summer: Oh, god! Oh, my god.

Kyle: Um…

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: Sorry.

Kyle: No, no, no. My bad. My fault.

Summer: No, I wasn’t paying attention.

Kyle: How’s your day going?

Summer: Having trouble with where I’m walking, apparently. You’re looking well. That’s– that’s what people say in these situations, right?

Kyle: Sure. Thanks.

Summer: Uh… harrison told me about all the rocks that he found at camp.

Kyle: Ah, yes. There are now rocks in every room of the house.

Summer: I wish I was there to see it. How– how do you think he’s doing? With the separation and everything.

Kyle: I think he’s handling it. He’s used to change.

Summer: Breakups are really hard on kids, though.

Kyle: How’s everything else?

Summer: I’m just keeping busy.

Kyle: Me too.

Audra: Good morning.

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: Do you not have somewhere else that you need to be?

Audra: I was actually on my way there.

Summer: That’s very convenient. You know, audra, your agenda is super clear. Kyle’s in a compromised state right now, but pretty soon he’s going to see it too.

Audra: Hm. Well, he looks fine to me.

Kyle: Okay, that’s enough. Just stop.

Billy: There she is. Genoa city’s fashion icon.

Chelsea: Well, that’s a bit of a stretch but keep going. Tell me more.

Billy: So, how is it? I know you were a little bit nervous to start at marchetti, but how’s it going?

Chelsea: I was definitely anxious to dive back into the fashion world, but it’s been easier than I thought. So, thank you for all the support.

Billy: Of course. Not a doubt in my mind it wasn’t going to go well.

Chelsea: Everything’s really coming together. And not just the fashion part. I mean, I’ve been working on the, um, marketing. I’ve been working on the business models, making really big decisions as creative director. I mean, I’m problem solving on a massive scale.

Billy: And rocking it, I’m sure.

Chelsea: Any insecurity I had on my first day, I just thought about that pep talk you gave me and, um, I just checked out my little charm bracelet that you got me and, uh, yeah, I walked out of that office feeling great. More confident than ever.

Billy: Happy to hear that. You deserve all your success.

Chelsea: Well, thank you. You’re my greatest cheerleader. What’s going on with you? You– you– you seem a little distracted. What is it?

Billy: Uh, well, the, uh, situation at jabot isn’t– isn’t great.

Chelsea: How so?

Billy: Jack and diane came up with a plan. They, uh, were asking for my help. I said yes, but it’s– it’s risky. There’s some high stakes maneuvering involved.

Chelsea: How is it risky?

Billy: I have to convince tucker and ashley that I’m on their side.

Diane: Oh, what? No phony compliments? No advising me about muffins in the kitchen?

Ashley: Why don’t you go choke on a muffin, diane?

Diane: [ Laughing ] Okay, let me guess. You’re just edgy because you’ve failed. You haven’t been able to gain the upper hand with jack or jabot. He refused to fire me, wouldn’t even let me quit and why you thought he would divide the family company for you is just beyond comprehension.

Ashley: But then again, there’s so many things in life that you don’t comprehend, right?

Diane: Oh, I know you. And I bet all this failure is really making you frustrated and more determined than ever to get what you want.

Ashley: You’re right, you’re right, yeah, yeah. I am determined. And I will win and you will fail and it’s as simple as that, so.

Diane: Oh, oh, by the way, um, jack and I will be out of the house this afternoon. Today is my wedding day.

Ashley: What are you talking about?

Diane: Um, we’re going to get married this afternoon at the courthouse.

Ashley: Oh, a quickie wedding.

Diane: Yeah.

Ashley: I see. One last ditch effort to get your hooks into my brother before it’s too late.

Jack: I’d like to reserve the best table for two in the lounge. It’s a very special evening for me and my soon-to-be wife. Champagne, flowers, the works. Very romantic, very simple, very lovely. I think you get the picture. Thanks for looking out for me.

Phyllis: You’re putting together a celebration. I will leave you to it.

Jack: No, wait. I think you owe me an answer or two. Let’s start with why. How could you do this? After everything we have been through. I thought I’d seen you at your worst and you dig deeper and unleash this hell on diane and your own family. Frankly, I’m amazed you could show your face in public. I have moderate to severe crohn’s disease.

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Summer: Don’t dismiss me, kyle. I know that you’re feeling all the things that I’m feeling, but you’re trying to escape by throwing yourself into whatever this is.

Kyle: Okay, summer, it is no longer your concern what I do or who I’m with. You created this situation, not me.

Summer: You’re loving this, aren’t you?

Audra: No, I actually, um, couldn’t care less. But I will say this, you know, I think, um, it’s kind of sad that you’re showing how controlling you are. Wait, didn’t you betray kyle’s trust, not the other way around?

Summer: Audra, you don’t know anything about our relationship. And I highly doubt you know the meaning of trust.

Kyle: Okay, please just stop. There’s no point in turning this into a fight.

Summer: It’s not a fight. Look, I know that I hurt you and I know that you might hate me, and that’s something that I have to live with. But I hate seeing you like this. Kyle, what are you doing? Don’t destroy your life because of what I did. You’re better than this.

[ Audra sighing ]

Audra: Now, I get it.

Billy: In the hope of undermining my sister’s attack, jack and I are going to have to stage a falling out because of his relationship with diane. At that point then, I will become a sort of a trojan horse and infiltrate tucker and ashley’s camp.

Chelsea: Wow. You know, I didn’t realize things had gotten so strained within your family.

Billy: Desperate times. And it’s a deceptive move, and not without risk. But I think it’s the right thing to do, not only to save ashley but to protect jabot.

Chelsea: So, you’re really worried about tucker’s influence on her?

Billy: I mean, she’s not thinking clearly. He’s been able to pull her in. And I’m not saying my sister’s innocent, right? She has her own checkered history.

Chelsea: Don’t we all?

Billy: But it’s nothing in comparison to what tucker is capable of. And if I’m going to the lengths that I’m about to go to, it’s all to try and expose tucker for who he really is.

Chelsea: [ Sighing ] Wow.

Billy: What do you mean by that?

Chelsea: Mm, no, nothing, I just– it’s just– it’s just a lot to take in.

Billy: It feels like there’s more to that.

Chelsea: No, I just– I mean, I understand wanting to protect your sister, of course, I do, but do you really want to get in the middle of all this? I mean, from what I’ve heard, tucker is a master at mind games.

Billy: Hopefully I can handle him.

Chelsea: Billy, you’ve come so far. I would just hate to see you stumble, and call upon some of your old demons. Ones you’re better off without.

[ Billy sighing ]

Diane: Listen, sis, getting married today was jack’s very romantic idea. He can’t wait to make things official between us.

Ashley: Shocking.

Diane: Yeah, he’s determined to prove to you and all the other naysayers how real and true our love is.

Ashley: Just great, diane.

Diane: Oh, if it’s any consolation, you do have a new ally. Billy made it very clear to jack that he was not happy with the way jack is handling things.

Ashley: Yeah, billy is the voice of reason. Who would have thought. If my other brother would open his eyes and realize he’s going to lose everything because of you, you stupid bitch.

Diane: [ Laughing ] Wow. Ashley, you’re the one who’s losing everything. But you know what? It’s not too late to change your mind.

Ashley: Diane, there’s no scenario where this ends well for you. You don’t get that, though, do you? Because you’re out of your league. You’re in over your head. And the sooner you realize that and get it through your thick skull, the better off we will all be. Please just move on.

[ Door shots closed ]

Diane: Hm.

Phyllis: Listen, jack, um, I know you’re angry with me. You have every right to be. I deserve it, I do. I never intended for any of this to happen.

Jack: No, you never do.

Phyllis: Okay, well, jeremy stark was manipulating me and he was threatening me, he was threatening my family. He made me do all those horrible things.

Jack: I have a hard time believing that stark got the best of somebody as savvy and clever and manipulative as you are. Given how much you despise diane, I guess there wasn’t a lot of coercion.

Phyllis: You’re right. I mean, I was blinded by anger and rage. That’s true. But, you know, my kids abandoned me. Everybody I cared about abandoned me. And, you know, that doesn’t matter. That doesn’t matter. I– I deserve all of this. Listen, I just want to know if you can find it in your heart to forgive me like you did diane.

Jack: Now, those two situations are very different and you know that.

Phyllis: I’m trying. Maybe you can meet me in the middle.

Jack: You created the situation you were in. You made a choice to punish everyone around you because you couldn’t let go of a decades-old feud. Nobody forced you to do anything. You knew the consequences of your choices. You caused our children’s marriage to fall apart.

Phyllis: I really didn’t intend for that to happen. I’m going to make it up to–

Jack: No, no, don’T. You’ve done quite enough.

Tucker: That went well.

Phyllis: I wasn’t expecting to see him. He caught me off guard.

Tucker: Caught you off guard. Hm. You know what else might catch you off guard, phyllis? When carson doesn’t show up at your trial to testify on your behalf. Are you prepared for that? Are you prepared for prison?

Phyllis: I just started doing this, okay? I’m going to turn things around. Relax.

Tucker: You’re not off to a good start, are you? He doesn’t appear even to be ready to give you the benefit of the doubt, let alone forgive you. I’m wondering if I made a mistake.

Phyllis: What does that mean?

Tucker: If you’re not going to fulfill your end of the bargain, I don’t know what good you are to me. (Wheezing)

Phyllis: Listen, I know jack very well, okay? Um, I can get him where you want him.

[ Phyllis sighing ] We’ll be best buds. He’ll be calling me red.

Tucker: Mm-hmm.

Phyllis: That will drive diane crazy. That’s what you want, right?

Tucker: “Will be, will be, will be, will be.” Yeah, right. You talk a big game. Can you back any of it up?

Phyllis: You will get full forgiveness and acceptance. Whatever jack and diane decide to do from there is on them, it’s not on me. I’m not continuing a war with that woman.

Tucker: Far be it from me to ask you to go above and beyond, phyllis.

Phyllis: Okay, I want to ask you a question. What if it doesn’t bother diane that jack forgives me? What if she doesn’t care? Where does that leave me and our arrangement?

Tucker: I don’t know. I’ll have to think about it.

Lauren: You know, I’ve– I’ve really been afraid to see you. Because I’m caught between my love for you and how much I’ve missed you.

Phyllis: I missed you. I missed you so much.

Lauren: And my rage at what you’ve done and put all of us through.

Phyllis: I missed you.

Lauren: I missed you.

Phyllis: I’m so sorry. I love you and michael so much. I love you so much. And if I have to spend the rest of my life making it up to you, I will. I promise you.

Lauren: I’m so relieved you’re home. And you, listen to me. You need to put your trust in heather. And you need to listen to everything that she tells you to do because she’s your best chance right now.

Kyle: Hey, I’m, uh, I’m sorry you had to witness that.

Audra: Oh, no, I– I’m fine. But, um, you’re clearly not. Summer is still getting under your skin, isn’t she?

[ Kyle chuckling ]

Kyle: You know, sometimes it’s, um, it’s hard to let go.

Audra: Yeah, I– I know what that’s like. You know, I, um, I went through it with noah.

[ Audra sighing ] That was one of the few times, if not only time, I’ve ever really been in love.

Kyle: Hm.

Audra: And that situation taught me, um, just how dangerous love can be.

Kyle: Yeah, well, falling for someone can be the greatest and the worst thing.

Audra: I handle things differently now. You know, I had to learn how to put myself first.

[ Sighing ] You know, I rather focus on the things that bring me pleasure and excitement, personally and professionally.

Kyle: That sounds like a wise course of action.

Audra: I find it’s better to, um, be selfish than to get hurt. Because pain can be distracting and cause you to make mistakes.

Kyle: I see the logic in that, but I don’t know if I’m ready to live my life that way.

Audra: Maybe not yet.

[ Summer sighing ]

Chance: Hey, summer.

Summer: Hey.

Chance: You all right?

Summer: Yeah, I just, uh… I had a weird encounter on the way over here and I guess I haven’t shaken it off yet.

Chance: You know what? This kind of reminds me, the other day I got home after a, uh, really long day at work, right? I’m putting dominic down and he’s looking up at me, at my sad, grumpy, face, right? And he reaches out and he…

[ Whooping ] He moves my mouth into a smile just like that. It was crazy.

Summer: He did not!

Chance: He did, I swear, it was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. He did, on my life. Cracked me up.

Summer: Oh, my god. Harrison would sometimes do stuff like that. He– he would go out into the backyard and pick flowers and bring them to me in a little bouquet when I was in a bad mood.

Chance: That’s sweet. You know, kids, they, uh, really put things into perspective, don’t they?

Summer: It’s true. Thanks.

Chance: What?

Summer: I don’t know, for not, uh, running in the other direction when you’re faced with my stormy mood.

Chance: Yeah, well, I’ve been there. I get it. So, if I can ever help ease the moment, I’m happy to do it.

Jack: Hey! Everything is set for our courthouse marriage later today and I have a little surprise for you after.

Diane: Aw, you have thought of absolutely everything, haven’t you? Well, I reached out to kyle and asked him to meet us over here. I hope– hope he’s excited that his parents can’t wait another minute to get married.

Jack: Oh, I’m sure he will be thrilled for us.

Diane: Oh, and I ran into ashley earlier. She reacted as you would have expected.

Jack: I hope she wasn’t too harsh with you.

Diane: Oh, no, same old, same old. Nothing I haven’t heard before. But, um, I did hint to her how troubled billy was by the situation.

Jack: Good thinking.

Diane: Yeah. I think we should put things in motion with billy as quickly as possible. And, you know, this quickie courthouse wedding could be the perfect impetus for your fight with him.

Jack: I don’t want anything to get in the way of our happiness today. Even a fake fight with billy for ashley. It– it just seems wrong, like we would taint the beauty of the moment.

Diane: No, no! That’s not going to happen. No, we’re not going to let anything ruin our day. But I– I think we should do this quickly because I really see it as the only way out. The chance to put ashley in her place so that she will finally leave us alone.

Jack: Yeah, yeah. That’s all I want. Some peace in this family so that you and i can enjoy our life together.

Diane: That’s all I want, too. I want things going forward to be as wonderful and stress-free as possible. And– and I’m sorry if my actions seem a little pushy, but honestly, it’s– it’s coming out of love.

Jack: You know something? You are absolutely right. We have to go to the limit if we’re going to end this war once and for all.

Diane: Yeah. Mm. [ Sighing ]

[ Diane chuckling ]

Your heart

is the beat of life.

Before my doctor and I chose breztri for my copd, I

Sharon: You know, our supper club was supposed to be about us trying new restaurants and different cuisines, yet, here we are at the same restaurant we’ve both been to 1,000 times before. But well, I was craving the empanadas.

Chance: I ordered something I’ve never had before, so that kind of counts, right?

Sharon: Mm-hmm.

Chance: Yeah.

Sharon: You know, I’m surprised, though, that you haven’t tried everything on the menu, given that Abby, oh, um–

[ Chance chuckling ] I’m sorry, I didn’t–

Chance: No, no, no, it’s fine, it’s fine. I’m not going to avoid the best restaurant in town just because my ex-wife owns it.

[ Laughing ] So, Abby and I, were on good terms. Our new arrangement with Dom’s going well, so all’s good.

Sharon: Glad to hear that.

Chance: Yeah, so I think we got a little sidetracked from the dessert menu. I want to hear about this new company, Kirsten, McCall…

[ Imitates bang ]

Sharon: Adustus, which, I have to be honest, I’m really not that thrilled about the name.

Chance: Yeah, I think I’m with you. It’s rough. I think that’s latin for burned, right?

Sharon: Mm-hmm.

Chance: Yeah, Adam’s clearly, trying to send a message. I’m just not sure how many people are going to get it.

Sharon: I don’t think Adam cares who gets it. He just amuses himself with his own inside jokes.

*****************

Tucker: Good evening, Phyllis. Hey, Adam, how’s it going? It’s funny. I would never peg you for a jazz guy I would think country, you know. Here I am crying in my beer over my dog and my woman. That kind of thing.

[ Both laughing ] Hey, I’ll see you.

Ashley: Bye.

[ Adam clears throat ]

Phyllis: Thank you.

Adam: Oh, ooh. You’re looking a little frazzled, Phyllis. Guess that’s to be expected given what you’re facing.

Phyllis: I’m not in the mood for you.

Adam: Yeah, from what I read, your, uh, situation is looking pretty dire. Key witness comes out of nowhere. Now, that screams payoff. I mean, if you did, I’m not throwing any shade. You know, I definitely would have done the same thing. But I don’t have a decades long history with the D.A. Who would love nothing more than to throw me in jail. But if anybody can do it, it’s you, Phyllis. So, I have faith in you.

Phyllis: You need to stop talking. Shut up. Stay out of my business. Stay out of my life.

Adam: Are you sure that you want me to do that?

Phyllis: Yeah. [ Laughs ]

Adam: Because I was just about to make you an offer.

Jack: It is off the table. We are not giving Ashley an easy win here.

Billy: Jack, this isn’t a family reality show competition, okay? This is our company. This is our business.

Jack: Yes, and Ashley is the one who’s threatening it right now and not for the first time. I cannot believe after all the work we did to rebuild our relationship, after she took her patents and ran to Paris, she pulls a stunt like this, all so Diane can’t be part of the business or part of our family. That’s not going to happen, Billy. I don’t care how much she and tucker plot and plan, I’m not moving one inch.

Billy: I hear you. But know this is about to get very ugly.

*****************

Billy: Mind if I join you?

Phyllis: That depends.

Billy: On?

Phyllis: On whether you’re interested in making me a blood sport like everybody else in this town.

Billy: Why would I do that?

Phyllis: Because I hurt a lot of people.

Billy: Yeah.

Phyllis: You know, Billy, I don’t want a brass band or anything like that, but it would be really nice if somebody cut me some slack like they seem to do with other people.

Billy: That’s quite the mea culpa.

Phyllis: When you’re wrong you’re wrong.

Billy: I don’t want to bury you, Phyllis.

[ Knocking on door ]

[ Sally chuckling ]

Nick: I missed this. I missed you.

Sally: I missed you.

[ Sally laughing ]

Nick: Are you, uh, glad you went?

Sally: I am. I feel like spending time with my sister and my grandmother did me a lot of good. Change of scenery, even quick, definitely made me see things more clearly.

Nick: See things more clearly in smoggy L.A.? Come on.

Sally: My sister, coco, grams and i spent a lot of time talking about everything that happened, and dealing with loss, coping with grief, and even though, I definitely have a long way to go, I feel like spending time with them gave me a huge head start to my healing. At least, I feel like it did.

Nick: Well, you look great.

Sally: Thank you.

Nick: I mean, you always look great, but you seem more– I don’t know, more at peace from when you left, you know? It looks good on you.

Sally: Thank you. Okay, enough about me. What did I miss? What’s the latest in genoa city?

Nick: Yeah, I mean, there are some news, but did I mention again, how much I missed this part?

Chance: So, you still think this is the right move? Joining forces with adam?

Adam: Hey, chance. Why don’t you stay out of it, okay? It’s got nothing to do with you.

Tucker: So, the infighting has begun.

Ashley: Yeah, exactly as we were hoping. Diane wants to quit her job at jabot and jack doesn’t wanna let her. It’s kind of entertaining. Somewhat.

Tucker: Hm, sounds like I missed the good stuff.

Ashley: Mm-mm. You missed the best part. Jack said, in order to keep the peace, he wants to let me have his share of jabot. I can run with it wherever I want, to paris, across the street, whatever.

Tucker: That’s good news, isn’t it? That means we don’t have to go to war with them, we can just– away we go.

Ashley: Tucker… not so fast. That’s not how I want this to end.

Diane: Oh, god.

Jack: You’re not going anywhere.

Diane: Jack.

Jack: We are not giving in to her extortion. You want your part of jabot? Fine. Take it.

Diane: No.

Jack: I will sign whatever papers are necessary.

Diane: Jack, I won’t let you do that.

Jack: It is done.

Ashley: Are you serious?

Jack: I am dead serious.

Ashley: You’re so disgusting, jack. That you would actually give away such a large portion of the company you spent your whole life building because of her? Keeping her at jabot?

Jack: I will say it’s a hell of a lot better than tearing apart the family company.

Ashley: Just stop, jack. You’re actually willing to do this for diane.

Jack: I would do that and a lot more for the woman I love. What is wrong with you? All of this to get her out of the company, out of the family? You want war? I’m ending it right now.

Tucker: Hi. What’s going on?

Ashley: Jack’s caving.

Diane: No, he’s not.

Jack: Diane.

Diane: I will not let you throw it all away for me, I’m out.

[ Footsteps approaching ] You’re mad at me for telling ashley that I’ll walk away from jabot.

Jack: I’m not–

Diane: Yes, you are. It’s like I let you down or something. Look, I know we were excited to work together at jabot, but me stepping down as chief talent officer is the only thing that makes sense at this point. I can’t let you break apart your family company just to stop ashley.

[ Jack sighing ] Mmm, popcorn. With cirkul, your water is deliciously flavored at the turn of a dial, with zero sugar and zero calories. And c

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…she wants a chunk of jabot, she can we have no guarantee wn.

Jack: Come here. Sit down. Sit down. I don’t want you thinking you have to sacrifice your happiness to appease my sister.

Diane: Well, if it gets her to back off–

Jack: We have no guarantee that it will. She is the one who should feel guilty and ashamed for the way she’s treated you, the way she’s treated us. You’re no threat to the family company or to my father’s legacy. She wants a chunk of jabot, she can have it. Maybe, she’ll back off then. As long as she has tucker weighing her down, her chances of success are a lot slimmer than she thinks they are.

Diane: Yeah, but what if they are successful with their new venture? Especially, if they take ashley’s patents and research with them? No, jack, I’m not going to let you throw away any part of this company for me. It means too much to you and to me. It’s– it’s where we met. It’s part of our love story.

Jack: Ashley and I have done this dance before. Look, best case scenario, history repeats itself and we find our way back together.

Diane: Okay, well, what’s the worst case?

Jack: Worst case, the two of them implode. Their business goes down in flames and jabot gets everything back.

Diane: Hm.

Jack: Hey, this is my decision to make.

Diane: Well, I’m making a decision too. I’m not letting you walk away from this fight.

Ashley: I’m not backing down from this fight, tucker. If jack tears jabot into pieces, then I’ve accomplished nothing. I’m not going to risk my father’s legacy just for the hell of it.

Tucker: But don’t you think if jack hasn’t had an epiphany about diane up to now, he’s never going to? So, I say we just pull whatever assets we can from jabot, which would really give us a nice little foundation for our venture, and we let diane drag jack and jabot into the mud. That’s a winning strategy, my dear.

Ashley: Mm, is it really?

Tucker: Mm-hmm. You can’t save a man who’s determined to drown.

Adam: What’s going on here? I’m picking up on a different dynamic between you two.

Sharon: Um, what are you talking about, adam?

Adam: [ Laughs ] Come on. I asked you about your interest level in chance not that long ago, and you gave me the “we’re just friends” card. I mean, I would hate to think you weren’t being honest with me, sharon. I mean, I thought that we were friends. And I have to say, I’ve noticed you glowing every time you see this guy, and now, here you are dining together.

Chance: Friends can have dinner, adam. And not to mention, it’s really none of your business.

Adam: None of my business?

Chance: No.

Adam: But it’s your business to try to talk sharon out of working with me?

Chance: Well, I was just simply giving her my opinion as a friend, and I’ll tell you right to your face, I think she’s asking for big trouble partnering with you.

Adam: Based on what?

Chance: Well, for starters, the name of your company. I mean, that basically, says it all, doesn’t it? You’re bitter about being under your daddy’s thumb. You’re looking for sharon’s sympathy, and I don’t think you are capable of letting go of your anger. I think you’re gonna weaponize this new company and use it against victor somehow.

Adam: Those are a lot of assumptions based on hearsay, detective.

Chance: I know you pretty well.

Adam: Well, you did. A little, maybe, in the past, but you have no idea what’s going on inside my head right now. I could have accepted the fact that my father has my best interest at heart, and maybe, this move is for my benefit.

Chance: Yeah, that is possible. Not very likely.

Sharon: Let’s just give adam the benefit of the doubt. Besides, nick and i can keep him in line.

Adam: Oh, I don’t doubt that you will try.

Nick: So, I’m out. Nate’s in. And I told you, uh, dad has asked me to join forces with adam at the new, reinvented mccall unlimited.

Sally: So, you’re gonna go along with it.

Nick: You know, at first, I was annoyed that I was being shuffled around like one of dad’s chess pieces, but then, I saw the potential of the mccall thing. And then, when you pair it with kirsten’s old company, and then, sharon joining the team, I agreed to jump on board.

Sally: But I thought you liked working with your mother and your sister.

Nick: I do, very much. But newman enterprises is a well-oiled machine. The impact I could have there compared to what me, sharon and adam could do with this new thing, it’s a no-brainer. Now, I’m not happy that nate is the coo, but that’s not my problem, that’s victoria and dad’S. I’m focused on the future. And I’m very… very excited about that. Sweet pillows of softness!

Nick: The idea of turning two companies into one wildly successful entity is very appealing. Plus, if I could turn cameron’s blood money into something positive, I think it would do some real good.

Sally: Well, I love the enthusiasm. But what about the adam factor? So, you could get along and work side by side?

Nick: Well, sharon will be there to referee. Hopefully, she’ll prevent us from killing each other. Adam seems to be on his best behavior when sharon’s around, so we got that going for us. Plus, I’m really looking forward to working with sharon again. You know, we ran the coffeehouse a million years ago. We worked at newman and at restless style, so we make a good team. And I think our history and our mutual respect for one another will keep things running smoothly.

Sally: Well, if you are excited, I’m excited.

Nick: I’m excited.

Sally: I’m also really hungry. Would you like to go downstairs and get something to eat?

Nick: Yes.

Sally: Okay.

Victor: Thank you.

[ Footsteps approaching ] Oh, phyllis. You’re looking damn good for a dead woman. You know, I may have been thought of having died two or three times, but I’ve never deliberately tortured my family with that notion. You, on the other hand, allowed your daughter, summer, my granddaughter, to plan a memorial for you. I mean, who does that? Are you kidding? No one. You know that her marriage is in shambles. That’s because of you.

Phyllis: Yeah, I– I know that, I– I– I am very sorry for that. I already talked to summer about it.

Victor: And yet, she still wants to help you. She wants to… ask me to help her find that carson fellow who apparently, is the only one who can save you from going to jail.

Phyllis: Uh, well, don’t worry about it. He’s been found. You weren’t able to do it. Somebody else did it. So, excuse me, excuse me.

Victor: Phyllis. What you have done to my granddaughter… is unforgivable. And you will pay for it.

Tucker: Bravo. Uh, you want to stay for another one or go home and see what the nut jobs are up to?

Ashley: Hm. Both sound so much fun, but I think one behooves our future more than the other, so…

Tucker: Home it shall be.

Ashley: Yes. Oh, hi, phyllis.

Phyllis: Hey.

Tucker: How’s it going?

Phyllis: It’s going great. Where is he? What have you done with him?

Tucker: Where’s who? Oh, carson? Don’t worry about him. He’s fine. He’s safe and sound in a new location. I gotta tell you, I was not thrilled hearing that you had conceived a plan to put him in some kind of protective custody to keep him away from me.

Ashley: That doesn’t sound very fair.

Tucker: And not to mention, violating the terms of our arrangement.

Ashley: Does this mean we can’t trust you? Not that shocking, but…

Phyllis: Your fiancé is holding me hostage, do you know that? He’s trying to make me fight a war I don’t want to fight anymore. I want to move on from that. It– it seems like you’re part of it and you’re getting some sort of joy out of this.

Ashley: Listen, phyllis, you can’t begin to understand.

Jack: All right, I’m with you. We don’t let ashley win, but you don’t leave jabot either. My sister wants war, we will give her a war. She wants to fight dirty, I can fight dirtier.

Diane: No, no, no, jack, I don’t want you to do that–

Jack: We may not have an option here. Look, if we decide not to give in, if we decide to really fight, I guarantee you tucker mccall is gonna pull out every dirty trick he can even think of.

Diane: I’m sure you’re right, but I have a plan. “Look at this skin, baby.

Phyllis: What is this? Do I even want to know what’s going on here?

Tucker: Well, well, well, seems you might be done with the war, phyllis, but the war isn’t done with you.

Diane: Okay, call billy, and tell him that we–

Jack: I’m sorry, hold on. My assistant just sent me a link, said I need to check out leanna love’s website.

Diane: Ugh.

Leanna: What will the surprise resurrection of the former mrs. Jack abbott mean for the future mrs. Jack abbott? The two women share more than taste in men, apparently. Both have a penchant for faking their demise. Latest to do it, was phyllis summers, who had bride-to-be, diane jenkins, charged with murdering her one time rival, before it was revealed that reports of miss summers’ death were wildly exaggerated.

Jack: I’ll bet ashley is just eating this up.

Diane: Oh, yeah, and she’s gonna run with it.

Leanna: The deception is having wide repercussions, we hear. The abbott family is taking sides on who’s right and who’s wrong in this saga. With jack and diane’s son, kyle abbott, and his wife, phyllis’s daughter, summer newman-abbott, on opposite sides. Things have gotten so bad, supposedly, that both have divorce lawyers on speed dial. And on the business front, jack abbott has given his fiancée a top executive job at family company, jabot.

[ Laughs ] And not everyone is happy about that. Phyllis has turned herself in for her crimes and is awaiting trial, while diane can look forward to a wedding, sumptuous digs in the jabot executive suite, and a luxurious lifestyle in the abbott mansion. Miss summers is almost certainly on her way back to the slammer, where she’ll see her family only on visiting days. And that’s leanna love coming to you live. Don’t forget to tune in each day for more tidbits.

Tucker: Wow. Leanna made some good points here, phyllis. Ones you might want to consider, given that you were willing to betray the one man who would keep you out of prison. I don’t know, I think my– my confidence in you is shot. You might have to do something for me if you want to win it back.

Sharon: You didn’t say a word the whole walk back from dinner. Is it adam? Did running into him bother you?

Chance: You know what? Let’s not ruin a perfect night by talking about adam newman, okay? I’ll leave it with this, I’m willing to follow your lead and give this guy the benefit of the doubt, even though, I don’t think he deserves it, it’s fine. I’ll do it.

Sharon: I appreciate that.

Chance: Yeah.

Sharon: I think.

[ Both chuckling ]

Chance: I know you can handle him. I don’t think you should have to, but that is beside the point. Now, can we please, can we stop talking about adam newman and can we just get back to the more important things?

Victor: My boy. Join me. Please have a seat.

Sally: Thank you.

Victor: Sally. I want to offer my deepest condolences, okay? For you and my sons who have lost a child. That’s tough.

Sally: Yeah. Wasn’t meant to be, I guess.

Victor: Yeah. I’m very, very sorry. Um, but I’ve got to tell you that I admire the way you’ve handled yourself.

Sally: Thank you.

Nick: Where we going with this, dad? Somedays, I cover up because of my moderate

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

choose dove?

Phyllis: Do I even want to know what you have in mind?

Tucker: I don’t even know yet. I’m sure I’ll think of something though. Or maybe I’ll just drop the whole thing. Let you take your chances in court.

Ashley: Look, I’m not trying to be mean here, but it– it is kind of like karmic justice, isn’t it, phyllis? Because stark never would have come to genoa city if it hadn’t been for you.

Tucker: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Much to consider. Shall we?

Ashley: Yeah.

Tucker: Okay.

Ashley: Well.

Victor: I have a proposition for you. I understand that jill has contracted your design firm to do some work on chancellor-winter’s headquarters and some of the other offices.

Sally: That’s right.

Victor: Well, I have a better offer. We would like you to create a new design division under the umbrella of newman enterprises. Money is no object. You’ll have all the office space you need.

Sally: Well, I really appreciate the offer, mr. Newman, it’s–

Victor: The reason I’m making the offer is because of my own past experiences. Whenever I have… suffered some loss or gone through some tragedy, as you obviously have, I’ve always found it best to plunge into a new task, new challenge. Do some hard work. Best therapy there is.

Sally: Well, I will need some time to think about it.

Victor: Of course.

Sally: Yeah, I would want to just bail on chancellor-winters. I would like to fulfill the commitment that chloe and I have there.

Victor: Well, you take all the time you need, okay? But just know, if you accept the offer, you work for no one else but newman enterprises.

Chance: I know you’re too smart to put yourself in a bad position. Thank you. And I actually do have faith that you and nick can keep adam in line, but that being said, I still don’t trust the guy.

Sharon: Well, thank you for trusting that I am fully in control of my life.

Chance: I just want you to be happy. And successful. Whatever that means to you.

Sharon: It’s been a while, but… I have a feeling that I am on my way to finding both.

Diane: People are bound to gossip and– and leak information. There’s nothing we can do about it.

Jack: Leave it to leanna love to be the one to air our family’s dirty laundry. In the past, she would have let me know before she pulled a stunt like this. Or not. No, we were always pretty good at using each other. Well, I guess I got the wrong idea. I thought this was going to be a business meeting.

Leanna: Did I say that, jack?

Jack: No, come to think of it, I guess you didn’T.

Leanna: Even if it were a business meeting, no need to be all stuffy, is there? Take your jacket off. Get comfortable.

Jack: Uh, where are you going?

Leanna: I’ll be right back. I have something to show you.

Jack: Nice digs. Life’s going well.

Leanna: Ta-da!

Jack: Why, miss love, if I didn’t know any better, I’d swear you were trying to seduce me. You’re right. We need to focus on the things we can control. Now, tell me about this plan of yours and how billy fits into it.

Diane: Okay. I know your brother is just as determined to protect your beau from ashley and tucker as we are. The difference is, billy’s not adverse to getting his hands dirty. No, I– I know that you would do whatever it takes for jabot. But why not let billy take the lead this time? I think he’s willing and able to do it.

Jack: He didn’t seem that concerned about jabot being in jeopardy.

Diane: Well, I think he was just advocating for more benign scenarios for your sake. He cares deeply about you, jack, and he doesn’t want to push too hard so that you were maybe forced to do something that’s not in your best interest.

Jack: That’s exactly how I feel. He just recently got back on his feet. He’s got his balance again. I don’t want to put him in an untenable situation and you still haven’t told me what his plan is.

Diane: Billy becomes our trojan horse. (Wheezing)

Tucker: Diane, jack. Uh, regarding this very smart, very generous decision, when can we expect paperwork giving ashley her fair share of jabot?

Jack: Actually, I have changed my mind. I can’t bring myself to tear my father’s company into pieces and I won’t be firing diane.

Tucker: See, I told you.

Jack: She won’t be resigning either. So, if you’re determined to fight me, hit me with your best shot.

Tucker: He’s beyond salvation. You’re just wasting your time trying to deal with him.

Jack: How about this? How about stop trying to deal with me? How about stopping all of this? You want to walk away? Fine. Walk away. You know, like brother and sister. Fine, let’s have a sibling divorce, shall we?

Ashley: Are you really doing this? I mean, if there was ever any question before, there isn’t now. You are willing to put her above everybody else in your life, including your own family, jack? You are pathetic.

Jack: I’m not the one trying to tear our family legacy in two. Last chance! You ready to be reasonable? Or are we going to turn this into an abbott family war?

Ashley: Bring it on.

Phyllis: I don’t like you. I don’t want to know you.

[ Laughs ] So, I’m not interested in anything you might offer.

Adam: Are you sure? It’s a legit opportunity and it’s something you would be really good at. And you know me, I am all about second chances. Okay, I need someone to build and run an it team at my new company. And I need someone that’s up to date on the bells and whistles that can make the infrastructure impenetrable.

Phyllis: You afraid? Someone’s after you?

Adam: You never know. But the most important thing for you is nick is my partner in this. So, it might be a great way to get back in his good graces.

[ Phyllis sighing ]

Phyllis: I’m not interested in anything you’re offering. I’ll just leave it at that. Um, I’m just not even interested in employment. I just– I’m trying to save my life, adam.

Adam: Fair enough. You know how to get in touch with me. Good luck.

Nick: Sorry if my dad put you on the spot.

Sally: It’s fine. Really. He expressed his sympathies and he offered me a job. It’s not really a bad evening with the great victor newman. But, you know, I am getting a little tired, so why don’t we say we maybe we just go back upstairs and order room service. That way I can just fall into bed.

Nick: I love it. Why don’t you go up? I’m gonna say goodnight to my dad.

Sally: Okay.

Adam: It wasn’t that bad at newman media, was it?

Sally: We had our moments.

Adam: We can have them again. But this time on our own terms, answering to no one.

Sally: We were lightning in a bottle, adam.

Adam: You can’t tell me that you don’t want that again.

Sally: I want different things now. And I have made my decision. There isn’t a newman alive who will ever sign my paychecks again.

Victor: Okay. Talk to you later. Bye. Where’s sally?

Nick: Uh, she went up to the room.

Victor: Oh.

Nick: Just, uh, trying to figure out what’s going on here. Seems like this may be a manipulation of some kind. Are you doing this just to keep sally away from me while I work with adam? Or do you just want her somewhere where you can keep an eye on her?

Victor: Son, I just made the woman in your life an enormous offer to create her own design company under the newman enterprises umbrella.

Nick: Did you?

Victor: Yes. Why must you always question my motives? I would like you to create a new design division under the umbrella of newman enterprises. Money is no object. You’ll have all the office space you need.

Adam: So, you have a no newman clause in your contracts?

Sally: It’s not exactly in writing, but…

Adam: I mean, clarify this for me. Is it the name? Genetics? Is it anybody with newman dna or is it everyone in– in the family of which you’re about to be a part of?

Sally: It’s you and nick. For obvious reasons.

[ Knocking on door ]

Adam: Sally, are you in there?

Nick: What are you doing here?

Adam: Nothing. If you’re still having bladder leaks,

[ Soft music plays ]

Your body’s my weakness

I can’t walk away

a taste of your sweetness

and I’ve gotta say

lower the lifeboat

I’m sinking down

take me to heaven

[ Adam sighing ]

Let me drift around

drift around

Sally: Thank you. All right, so the room service is on its way. And I do not want to talk about your father’s offer tonight. Because I honestly have no idea how I feel about it.

Nick: Yeah, cool.

Sally: In fact, I do not want to talk about anything.

[Song resumes]

Lower the lifeboat

[ Diane sighing ]

Jack: Billy, it’s jack. Can we meet first thing tomorrow morning? Diane and I have a plan to stop ashley from destroying jabot.

Audra: Thank you.

Summer: You really are something else.

Audra: Thank you.

Summer: It’s not a compliment. I’m just curious. Is kyle another random hookup to you or did you have your sights set on my husband and his money before you even knew that I had moved out?

*”**”**********””***

Summer: The other woman is calling me tacky.

Audra: Hm. I’m not sure the other woman really fits me. And, um, I don’t know if you’ve heard, but I have my own money, thank you, so it wasn’t Kyle’s financial assets that attracted me to him. Why are you torturing yourself this way? I mean, why does it matter how Kyle and I started?

Summer: It matters because Kyle and I are still married.

Audra: Technically, sure, okay, but I don’t see anything I do affects the bigger picture. You know, Kyle is a grown man. He makes his own decisions. Or– or is that something new?

Summer: What is that supposed to mean?

Audra: Summer, you’re trying to pin this all on me, okay? So– so you must clearly think that kyle can be controlled and manipulated, and maybe that’s the real issue. You know, Kyle has free will and if he wanted to be with you, girl, he would be, and yet, here you are, all on your own.

Diane: Good morning.

Ashley: And to you.

Diane: Nice jeans.

Ashley: Nice, um, shoes. Mrs. Martinez made muffins. Fresh out the oven if you want one in the kitchen.

Diane: Well, that’s very kind of you to let me know.

Ashley: Of course. Busy day?

Diane: It is. And– and you?

Ashley: I think it’s gonna be a really good day.

Diane: Is it?

Ashley: Mm-hmm. Did you hear the news?

Diane: Well, I’ve heard a lot of news. Um, let’s see, there’s a city council election coming up. A sale at Fenmore’s. Oh. Oh, that’s right. There’s a possible thunderstorm moving in.

Ashley: Actually, the biggest storm of all has already landed. Well, Phyllis is back. I’m sure you heard.

***************

Tucker: Sweet mystery of life. All right, ladies, let’s lay some ground rules. Biting, scratching, hair pulling, those are all legal.

Diane: Nice try, tucker, but I’m not going to give you the satisfaction of a cat fight.

Tucker: Hmm. All right, you– you take the first shot.

Diane: You know, I don’t– I don’t think any– any shots are needed.

[ Diane sighing ] Welcome home. You’re looking fabulous.

Phyllis: Thank you very much, Diane.

Diane: Yeah. When I first found out what you did, I was furious, but not surprised. You know, the truth is that you and I were victims of similar circumstances. We both fell prey to jeremy stark. And he had the power to make people sink to their absolute lowest level and make the absolute worst decisions.

Phyllis: Well, that is true.

Nick: Let’s focus on the present instead of rehashing previous indiscretions.

Victoria: Nothing changes, Nick.

Nick: Neither does the argument, so let’s switch things up.

Victoria: You’re suddenly on Adam’s side?

Nick: No. I’m on the side of accepting reality and trying to make things work.

Victor: Your sister seems to think that it’ll only work under her terms.

Victoria: He is a spoiled, rotten brat. He needs a strong hand to guide him, which is why I think it’s a great idea to send Nicholas over to Adustus to keep an eye on him.

Victor: I run this company, as I’ve just made clear to all of you.

***************

Victoria: Well, I am making the active choice to go along with this deal. And if you can’t do that, you should say so now.

Nick: Well, of course, you’re okay with it, because it works out to your advantage. But I know Adam doesn’t want to go along with this, and I’m not happy. What am I supposed to do with that?

Victor: You’ll get over it.

[ Nick laughing ]

Nick: Of course, I will. I’ll get over it for the family. Newman family unity, right?

Victor: Newman family unity. It’ll be achieved, even if I have to force it.

Audra: Just– I’m waiting to hear from nate. Um, there’s something’s going on with the Newmans and just curious to know what he found out.

Kyle: Oh. Got it. Fun time’s over. Your mind’s back to work.

Audra: Uh, well, um… it’s what I do, kyle. It’s who I am.

[ Kyle chuckling ]

Kyle: Look… not complaining.

Audra: Good, because work time and play time are two very separate things for me.

Kyle: Oh, are they? I’ll keep that in mind.

Audra: But you should know that I do give 1,000% to each of them. Better?

Kyle: Hmm. Much.

Audra: Good.

[ Kyle sighing ]

Kyle: You know, I’m still technically a member of the Newman family, so, maybe I can ask around and see what’s going on.

Audra: Um, that’s sweet of you and um… I might take you up on that offer down the road, but I think Nate has this one under control.

********************

Kyle: We’re not quite at the spending the night stage yet.

Audra: Mm, nope.

Kyle: Plus, I have a little boy who likes to wake up bright and early for breakfast.

Audra: I’m sure he’s a cutie, just like his daddy.

Kyle: I really am, aren’t I?

Audra: Uh, you know, I like that you’re not, um… clingy.

Kyle: Uh, should I be taking notes?

Audra: Um… I– you know, I’m going to keep you posted of any new developments with Newman Media.

Kyle: Okay.

Audra: Oh, and by the way, can you, hm, please try to be a little bit more discreet with your text messages?

Adam: Nick, I haven’t decided anything, okay? I’m not even sure it’s a good idea.

Nick: From no angle is this a good idea. Have you forgotten how many times over the years you have put Sharon though hell?

Adam: How is this any of your business, nick? Or is it all just part of a, “hey, let me show my brother what an ass I think he is?” I mean, shouldn’t you be with sally right now, helping her heal?

Nick: Sally’s strong. She is resilient. She doesn’t need me hovering to help her with her issues. She knows I will be there for her as much as she needs me.

Adam: But your ex is defenseless and needs you to save her from the big, bad wolf, is that it?

Nick: Stop, Adam, just stop it. This is not about the women in our lives. As usual, this is about us. Why is it that we can’t trust each other? Why is it that we can’t remain civil with one another for longer than five minutes? I mean, why do we even try? Let’s just quit pretending. Let’s just stop forcing this issue of us being brothers.
