Christine: My marriage is none of your business.
Phyllis: Um… it’s just been a while since you’ve been single, you know, and I thought maybe you could use some dating tips or something.
Christine: Oh, right. Yeah. Wait, are you serious? From you? Your latest romantic partner was a known felon who ended up dead. No, I don’t think I’m gonna be coming to you for advice.
***************Christine: We’re not friends, so we are definitely not gonna talk about my personal life.
Phyllis: Well, I feel like I am being a friend to you and to Danny’s when I tell you, you just shouldn’t chase after him again.
Christine: Chase after him? Okay, first of all, that’s your thing, not mine. And second, unlike you and me, Danny and I are actual friends. And Daniel is my godson and we’ve always been close. I’ve heard that you’ve been hanging out with Danny. And maybe you should take your own advice and not fool yourself into thinking that something will come of that. Right now, your number one priority should be getting your miserable life back on track.

Mariah: Thank you. I needed to hear that. Well, what about you? How is the job search going?
Kyle: Oh. Uh, refresh my memory. Um, what exactly is a job?
Mariah: Oh, please tell me you’re at least looking.
Kyle: Why? I’m rather enjoying the easy life.
Mariah: Yeah, because you always struck me as a man of leisure.
Kyle: Well, I’m learning how to make sourdough from mrs. Martinez.
Mariah: Of course, you are.
[ Kyle laughing ]
Kyle: No, no. Um, but I am having fun.

Billy: Look at you. You’re here.
Chelsea: I’m back, baby.
Billy: Thank god.
Chelsea: That was the welcome home I was waiting for.
Billy: It’s damn good to see you.
Chelsea: Did you miss me?
Billy: Every day. And why didn’t you tell me you were coming home?
Chelsea: I wanted to surprise you. Be a little mysterious. Did it work?
Billy: Am I smiling?
Chelsea: Your face. It’s not the same as video chats.
Billy: No, it’s not the same like this.
Chelsea: Well, full disclosure, I’m also here for a little bit of work. I have a Marchetti meeting to discuss the spring collection.

[ Jill chuckling ]
Chance: Hey.
Jill: Oh. Oh… let me look at you. You are infuriating. Do you know that? You really are. Are you sure it’s okay?
Chance: Yeah. Yeah, I’m fine. I promise you, for the fifth time. I’m fine. I’m recovering but I’m being a textbook patient too. Don’t worry.
Jill: Do you know how irritating it is to come into town and find out that your grandson has been in the hospital?
Chance: Well, I took that bullet just to annoy you. You know that, right?
Jill: Hey, hey, hey, don’t joke about nearly dying.
Chance: Come on, I didn’t almost die.
Jill: Stop arguing.
Chance: Okay. All right. Sorry. I promise you, I thought being chief would get me out of the line of fire more often, but clearly, I was wrong.
Jill: Oh, I’m just so happy that your injury wasn’t worse and that that bastard’s been caught.
Chance: Well, justice will be served.
Nina: Thank goodness for that. And it seems to have been maybe a much-needed wake-up call.
Jill: What does that mean?
Chance: Mom, mom, please. Not– not anymore. Come on.
Nina: Chance may change course and quit law enforcement.
Jill: Is this true?
Chance: Okay. Why don’t we all sit down, let’s take a breath. Sit down, sit. I’ve not made any kind of decisions yet. At all. I’m just simply… considering the possibility.
Jill: Wow. That would be a huge shift for you.
Nina: Yes. But then jill and I would never have to fear again getting one of those telephone calls saying that something’s happened to you.
Jill: Listen, if you do decide to quit the G.C.P.D, I have an idea.
Chance: All right. Let’s– let’s hear it.
Jill: Well, in my opinion, it is high time that you followed in the footsteps of your grandfather and catherine.
Chance: Meaning what?
Jill: Meaning come to work with me at chancellor-winters. Honey, I will teach you the ropes of the business world.
Nina: Jill, that’s a brilliant idea and a great opportunity.
Chance: That is a very generous offer. Thank you. But that is a big step and I have no experience, so.
Jill: Well, you don’t need experience. You have exposure. You have lived your whole life hearing about the business. And you’re smart and you’re dedicated.
Nina: You’re hard-working. You’re great with people. You have excellent instincts.
Jill: And I can always use allies within the company. Honey, I know talent when I see it. I think you’d be really good at this.
[ Chance sighing ]
[ Kyle sighing ]
Diane: Morning.
Kyle: Morning, mom.
[ Kyle sighing ]
Diane: Morning.
Kyle: Morning, mom. Where’s dad?
Diane: Uh, he’s still upstairs. I wanted to talk to you before he came down.
Kyle: What did you want to discuss?
Diane: Uh, have you given any more thought to what we talked about last night?
Kyle: Audra and I didn’t exactly end on good terms. Okay? And it would be a tough sell to convince her that I want back in on tucker’s plan to take over jabot.
Diane: Well, don’t you think it’s worth a try?
Kyle: I don’t know if she would believe me. And tucker was already pretty suspicious about my intentions in the first place.
Diane: All right. Are you honestly worried about that or is there something more going on?
Kyle: Mom, I’m torn. Keeping this from dad feels wrong. I almost betrayed him and the company. Doesn’t he have a right to know?
Diane: Would you please stop beating yourself up?
Kyle: How can I? I mean, I almost sold him out to tucker for my benefit. If I don’t come clean, what does that say about me?
Diane: It says nothing. You reversed course. Thoughts are not actions. If they were, we’d all be in trouble. Kyle, listen to me. You should tell your father when it’s the right time for you.
Jack: Tell me what?
Kyle: Uh, dad, I um, I’ve just been, you know, wrestling with how to tell you something.
Jack: You can tell me anything. You know that.
Kyle: Yeah. I just want you to know how sorry I am that I’ve been a jerk about your offer to come back to jabot.
Jack: No apology necessary. It’s water under the bridge.
Kyle: Dad, don’t cut me so much slack.
Jack: No. You’ve already taken steps to straighten things out with billy, with me.
Kyle: It’s not enough. I– I want you to know that I am now considering your offer to be C.O.O. Of jabot.
Tucker: Hey.
Devon: Hey.
Tucker: How are you?
Devon: Not great.
Tucker: What’s going on?
Devon: Well… I learned something new about you this morning and it’s just like you can’t help yourself, huh?
Tucker: I don’t know what you mean.
Devon: I’m talking about your latest lie. And I’m sure it’s tough to keep up with all of them. But this is one too many and I have had enough.
Devon: So my only question to you is, are you that arrogant to think that you were gonna get away with everything?
Tucker: What have you been told now? What is it you think you know?
Devon: It’s not what I think I know. It’s what’s been confirmed. We’re talking about your collusion with aunt mamie.
Tucker: Oh, devon. We’ve discussed this, haven’t we? I told you there’s no truth to any of those allegations.
Devon: I know what you said, I was there. And it was a lie. And you told it to me over and over again. It started with you saying that you had no connection to mamie whatsoever. And then after I pressured you, you admitted that you had been in communication with her. But it was to try and make things better with me.
Tucker: It was.
Devon: It wasn’t at all because you’re also using her firm to make investments into chancellor-winters behind my back. Right?
Tucker: Listen, I have no say in how mamie johnson chooses to spend her company’s money.
Devon: Okay. But you did conveniently choose not to mention that she’s using your money.
Tucker: Not all of it. Most of it’s mamie’S.
Devon: It doesn’t matter though. You understand that, right? Because you told me one thing and then I find out the complete opposite. So, what are you after?
Tucker: Nothing.
Devon: If it’s nothing, then why all the deception?
Tucker: The only thing I’ve ever wanted was just to be closer to you.
Devon: You gonna stick with that? Okay. Well, I mean, that’s pretty much out the window because I don’t believe a word that comes out of your mouth.
Tucker: Okay. Hold… first of all, where did you get this information? Was it phyllis? Because you know she hates me and she’s not above spreading lies to try to ruin me.
Devon: Tucker, the only lies are coming out of your mouth. They’re not coming from phyllis or anybody else.
Tucker: I have tried my best to be honest with you.
Devon: That’s your best? ‘Cause I would sure hate to see your worst. And I’m gonna make something really clear to you right now. Keep your hands off of chancellor-winters because that’s neil’s legacy and it’s your mother’s legacy. You’re not any part of it. And I’m gonna make sure it stays that way.
Tucker: Yeah. I– I think you’re blowing this a little out of proportion.
Devon: No, I think I’m being actually really nice about this. So please keep your distance from me and my family. I’m done with you.
Ashley hey, are you okay?
Devon: Yeah, good to see you.
Ashley: What the hell have you done now?
Jack: Wait, you’re serious? You’re considering the C.O.O. Role?
Kyle: It, uh, it took me an embarrassing amount of time to come to my senses. But, um…
Ashley: What the hell have you done now?
Jack: Wait, you’re serious? You’re considering the C.O.O. Role?
Kyle: It, uh, it took me an embarrassing amount of time to come to my senses. But, um… yeah, yeah. Yeah, I am.
Diane: I can’t tell you how happy I am to hear that.
Jack: That is fantastic news.
Kyle: It feels good for me too.
Jack: Well, as thrilled as I am, I gotta say it comes out of the blue. Um, was there any one thing that prompted this change of course?
Kyle: I know I had numerous reasons of why I wasn’t interested before.
>Jack: Oh, you definitely were not interested. You thought I was giving you a token role.
Kyle: I guess I just needed some time to self-reflect. Starting after my confrontation with billy where he accused me of being a spoiled brat and trying to take his job.
Diane: I didn’t realize he said that to you.
Kyle: No, it was harsh, mom, but he was right. I needed him to call me out. It made me realize I need to back off and it set me on an entirely different path altogether.
Jack: Yeah, you implied you had something in the works.
Kyle: I did and– and then it didn’t work out.
Jack: And that’s when you realized you were interested in the C.O.O. Role?
Kyle: It gave me pause. But the final turning point was mom. She gave me some good advice on how to move forward.
Jack: Well, I am not surprised. She is a wise woman. What did she tell you?
Kyle: That I haven’t been putting us on the same level. I’ve been making demands and exerting pressure on you. And she made me realize that I need to prove myself to you as much as you need to prove your faith in me.
Jack: Seems like pretty sound advice.
Kyle: You know, getting what you want. It– it comes in stages, it can’t be rushed. So I have to be patient.
Abby: Hey.
Devon: Hey. Thank you for taking some time away from work.
Abby: Of course, you sounded riled up. What’s going on?
[ Devon sighs ]
Devon: It’s tucker.
Abby: Oh. What now?
Devon: So lily told me this morning that she and jill found proof that he is directly involved in mamie’s investment in chancellor-winters.
Abby: That bastard. So you have solid proof?
Devon: Seems that way. Yeah. Proving what we already suspected.
Abby: What’s he doing?
Devon: He’s using her financial firm to make investments. And one of which was to chancellor-winters. Which means he just flat-out lied to me about any collusion with mamie.
Abby: I am so sorry. I know that we suspected that there was something going on, but to know for sure? I mean, that’s horrible.
Devon: Yeah. And then when I went to confront him about it, he just doubled down and kept lying to me. So he’s done. I’m cutting him off.
Abby: I’m sorry, I hate that for you. You know what? Actually, I don’T.Beuse you de and tucker is just never gonna be that for you.
Devon: Yeah, I know. I’ve given him too many chances and he’s let me down every single time.
Abby: But if it makes you feel any better. I think he wants to be that for you. He’s just not capable of it.
Devon: Well, it doesn’T.
Abby: So, is tucker gonna back down now?
Devon: I don’t think he will. At all. I told him to keep his hands off of chancellor-winters. But I think he’s gonna do whatever he wants to do because he didn’t care about the fallout.
Abby: Even if the fallout is his relationship with his son.
Devon: Right. So, the only thing I can do is figure out how to protect my family and my company from whatever he has planned.
Abby: You know what? Let me talk to my mom. Maybe she knows something. There’s gotta be a way for us to find out what’s going on.
Devon: Yeah.
Devon: I think you just gave me an idea. I need to get a hold of the family because tucker does need to be stopped. And I think I know how to accomplish that.
Chance: So, the corporate world, huh?
Jill: Oh, my god. It’s your family legacy.
Chance: Mhm-hm. Did you two talk about this?
In unison: What?
Chance: Try to mix something up together again?
Jill: Absolutely not.
[ Text alert ] Ah, it’s devon. He wants to meet with– with me and lily. I really better get going. Please, please take seriously my suggestion.
Chance: I will, I promise.
Jill: Okay. All right, darling. I love you.
Chance: I love you more.
Jill: Both of you take care.
Nina: Bye.
Chance: Okay. I know you want to say something. So, go ahead.
Nina: Well, you know, jill and I never see eye to eye on anything. We don’t have the closest relationship–
Chance: And yet you’re already, like, wow, what a brilliant idea.
Nina: Well, it is. I was the first one to suggest it to you.
Chance: Yeah, I know. What a coincidence.
Nina: No, jill and i did not collude on this. I promise you. We’re both telling you the truth. It’s just, uh, synchronicity in the universe. Maybe it’s meant to be.
Chance: Sure.
Nina: Look, jill’s right. I mean, you’ve been around business all your life. It’s in your dna. I have no doubt that this would come totally naturally to you.
Chance: Even though I have zero interest in sitting behind a desk and crunching the numbers.
Nina: Yes, please. A nice, safe desk job. Something to help your mother sleep at night. What a novel concept. And you know, it wouldn’t just be crunching numbers. You gotta read people and set priorities. And see five steps ahead and weigh the pros and cons. It’s nothing you’re not doing anyway. Come on, this could be really great for you. Will you just think about it, please? For me?
Chance: Okay. I will, I promise.
Tucker: I’m really not in the mood.
Ashley: Clearly. I can see that. What’s got devon so upset?
Tucker: It’s a personal and private family matter. So it really has nothing to do with you.
Ashley: Unfortunately, whether or not we’re married, we share a grandson. Looks like you need somebody to talk to.
Tucker: Someone maybe, but not you.
[ Ashley sighs ]
Ashley: Can you afford to be so picky? Look at your life. I mean, it’s imploding. Our marriage is done. Your business is done. Looks like your relationship with your child is done. Well, it’s the truth and you do realize that whatever affects devon affects my daughter and our grandson. So, I mean… I’m willing to listen.
Tucker: Which accomplishes what, exactly?
Ashley: That’s a good question. Do you want to fix things? Because if you stop being such an ass, I might be willing to help.
Tucker: You’re right, devon is upset.
Ashley: Yeah. Why?
Tucker: Phyllis, I assume, uh… spreading lies and exaggerations about me. And apparently one of them got back to devon and it was the final straw for him and he has… cut me out of his life.
Ashley: So, what was this faux lie that destroyed your relationship?
Tucker: I made an investment in mamie johnson’s company and I didn’t tell devon about it.
Ashley: Interesting. So, she did get involved with you. Okay. So you had a business relationship with devon’s aunt that you didn’t reveal. Something else?
Tucker: Well, now mamie has invested in chancellor-winters. So devon suspects that she and I are colluding. And that my intention is to buy a stake in the company.
Ashley: Mhm. And I’m assuming he’s right?
Tucker: No.
Ashley: No?
Tucker: No.
Ashley: Well, that’s the only thing that makes sense. I mean, clearly, that’s one of the reasons you came back to genoa city, right? Is to get your hands on chancellor and jabot.
Tucker: Ashley, even if that were true. Why would i acknowledge it to you?
[ Ashley laughs ]
Ashley: Well, then don’T. You know, I don’t really care.
Tucker: Oh.
Ashley: Well, honestly, tucker, all this game-playing and lying. It’s exhausting even hearing about it. How do you do it?
Tucker: Wow. Your assessment of me is lovely as ever.
Ashley: It is what it is.
Tucker: We really have no common ground between us, do we?
Ashley: Actually, as I said, we share a grandson. There’s no greater common ground than that.
Tucker: So what?
Ashley: So… you’re a crappy romantic partner, right? You’re a barely decent father. But you do happen to be an excellent grandfather. I’ll give you that. So in the spirit of family peace, I’m willing to help you mend things with your son.
Tucker: Why would you do that?
Ashley: Well, definitely not for you. But I’m doing it for him and for my daughter and for that beautiful little boy.
Jack: You always have a way of saying the right thing. I am eternally grateful.
Diane: Well, I’m just relieved that I finally got through to our son.
Jack: And look, I’m grateful to you as well, for having the wisdom to change your position.
Kyle: Well, you and me both.
Jack: Listen, at the risk of pushing. I know it’s taken a while to get here. But is there anything I can say or do to lure you over the finish line?
Diane: I second that. What will it take?
Kyle: There’s nothing else you can say, either of you.
Diane: You know how much we want you back where you belong. With your family at jabot.
Kyle: I know, but… just talking it out with you has helped. Knowing the fact that you didn’t say it was too late and take the offer off the table. No, I– I don’t think I need any more time.
Jack: Wait. Does– does that mean?
Kyle: Yeah, I’m– I’m in. I’ll take the job. Back where I belong.
[ Jack grunting ]
Devon: So I wanted to update both of you as soon as possible.
Jill: What’s the latest?
Devon: I went to confront tucker about what you told me regarding his involvement in mamie’s investment.
Jill: And what did he have to say for himself?
Devon: What do you think he had to say? He denied it.
Jill: Oh, of course, he did. He wouldn’t reveal any of his cards to me either when I spoke to him. But I had this teeny little hope that he would be honest with his son.
Devon: Oh, no, he– he doesn’t care at all about that.
Lily: So he didn’t admit to anything?
Devon: Nothing about the collusion. But I believe he does have some kind of plan in the works. And we need to be ready for it.
Jill: Oh, we will be.
Lily: Yeah. I mean, now that we know he poses a threat, we’ll definitely take precautions.
Devon: Yeah.
Lily: But I’m really sorry that he let you down again. I really do believe you deserve better.
Devon: Thank you. I appreciate you saying that. I’m just glad that I know what I’m dealing with and how to move forward with him. ‘Cause he cannot be trusted. And he’s not worth any more of my time.
Lily: Well, look, I don’t want to make light of what you’re going through. But I’m really happy that you’re finally seeing who he really is.
Devon: I’m a little disappointed, more for dominic than anyone else in all this. But I don’t have a choice but to cut him off.
Lily: Well, maybe it’ll be a wake-up call for him.
Jill: No, I appreciate your optimism but I don’t think it’s gonna do him any good to have false hope. Tucker is tucker.
Devon: Very true. And in the meantime, we all need to pull together to figure out how to protect the company from whatever attack is coming.
Jill: Agreed.
Devon: In order to do that though, we need to know what tucker is up to.
Lily: Well, which is hard because he’s not honest about anything.
Devon: Exactly. But I have an idea of how to figure out what tucker’s plans are. That I’m hoping both of you will be on board with. You know that feeling of having to rewash dishesthat didn’t get clean? I don’T.

Tucker: You’re serious? You would actually help me with devon?
Ashley: I think that devon wants and genuinely needs to have a relationship with you. And this hits me where I live, tucker. I know what it’s like to cut off a parent and live with so many regrets about the lost time.
Tucker: If you could actually do what you’re proposing, obviously, that would be great. But…
Ashley: But what? This isn’t a negotiation. It’s a yes or no thing.
Tucker: How much pull do you have with devon?
>>Ashley: Well, I have a lot of pull with my daughter and you know how much he loves her. I think it’s worth a shot. You either do or you don’t, so…
Tucker: And what is it you want in return?
Ashley: I– I just can’t do this.
Tucker: All right. There she goes, running away.
Ashley: You know what? Don’t you even start with me. You want to go there?
Tucker: If I accept this offer that doesn’t make us friends.
Ashley: I don’t want to be your friend. I see there’s no possibility in that.
Tucker: Have you ever seen otherwise? Why don’t you just tell me this whole thing has been a ruse since we got back from paris. I’ll respect you a little more.
Ashley: I don’t need and want your respect.
Tucker: Oh, gee. I thought you said we could be civil towards one another.
Ashley: Yeah, I did because I thought it would be nice to gush over our gorgeous grandson’s photos someday or maybe sit in a family dinner without causing a scene. Other than that, I want nothing from you.
Tucker: Okay. Fine. I accept your offer. Thank you very much.
Ashley: You’re welcome. Fantastic. Have a great day.
Tucker: You too.
Ashley: You too.
Nina: You’re placating your mother, aren’t you? You’re humoring her so she’ll stop pushing.
Chase: Yeah, maybe just a little bit. Because I’m not ready to upend my whole career a week after getting shot. I mean, does that make any sense?
Nina: No. Not at all. But okay. I’ll support you in whatever you decide. Whether it’s chancellor-winters or some other direction.
Chance: Well, thank you. It’s just– it’s a big change, mom. It’s like stepping off a cliff. I don’t even know if I’m gonna be good at it.
Nina: I know. We’ve had this discussion before about you changing direction. I’m well aware of how difficult it would be for you to change course like this.
Chance: Yeah. I committed myself to a life of service. To serve and protect. It’s a mindset.
Nina: A mission.
Chase: Exactly. In everything I’ve done, that has been the core.
Nina: But it’s not the first time you’ve ended up hurt. And in the hospital. Just fighting for your life. I mean, how many more times, chance? Haven’t you given enough?
Chance: I– I– I’m sorry. I know I– I know I scared you.
Nina: Surviving this last bullet should be a reminder of how lucky you are to be alive, sitting here and talking to me. I mean, I’m fun to talk to, right?
[ Nina sniffling ]
Chance: Yes. Yes, you are fun to talk to. I’m never not gonna be grateful for that.
Nina: You gotta stick around, chance, okay? For my sake. For everyone else that loves you.
Chance: Trust me, you’re stuck with me.
Nina: Good.
Chance: I’ll be honest with you. There’s just– there’s one thing that’s been… just eating at me about all this.
Nina: What? Tell me.
Chance: You know, my whole life, I just ran away from the chancellor legacy. I didn’t want anything to do with it. And I, uh– I wonder if it’s because i thought I wasn’t worthy enough. You know, I wouldn’t measure up.
[ Nina scoffs ]
Nina: Well, you know what I’m going to say about that. And I think jill would agree with me. In fact, she’d probably smack you upside the head just for thinking that way.
Chase: An injured man? She would never. You know, maybe it’s time for me to rethink my place as a chancellor, and… in the family business.
Nina: That would be my dearest wish come true.
Ashley: Well, what’s going on here?
Jack: Perfect timing, ashley. Please join me in welcoming kyle back to jabot as our new chief operating officer.
Ashley: Congratulations. So you’re not gunning after billy’s job anymore?
Kyle: So you heard about that?
Ashley: I did. Not your smartest move.
Jack: Ashley…
Kyle: No, no, no, she’s right. It uh, took a few smackdowns, but I finally got set straight.
Ashley: I hope so.
Kyle: Family is a priority and I’m determined to be a team player. Especially after whatever tucker’s next move is.
Ashley: Guess what? I just spoke with tucker at the club.
Diane: You mean an actual conversation with him?
Ashley: Yeah. A conversation. I walked in on a confrontation between him and devon.
Jack: What was devon confronting him about?
Ashley: Yeah. Apparently, devon found out that tucker invested in mamie’s company. And he’s convinced that tucker and mamie are going after chancellor now.
Jack: That man will do anything. And what– what is mamie doing being involved with a man like that? That’s not like her.
Ashley: Uh, think about it a second. You know how much mamie hates jill. So maybe she thinks it’s worth it to work with tucker, so he goes after jill. I don’t know.
Jack: Yeah. I suppose.
Ashley: Yeah. Well, anyway, tucker was really hurting after the fight. Of course, he takes no responsibility for anything, as usual. But I offered to help, I don’t know, mend things between him and his son.
Jack: He’s already made it very clear to you. He is not gonna fall for any effort to get closer to him.
Ashley: Yeah. It’s not about that, jack. Okay? This is about helping the man that my daughter is in love with.
Jack: You shouldn’t get involved. If all of that is true, devon needs to separate himself from his father.
Ashley: Jackie, come on. Stop, please. How is that your call?
Jack: It’s not my call. It’s not yours either. Look, I had this argument with billy. I– I was against it then. I’m against it now.
Ashley: Duly noted. Tucker is not my favorite person right now. Okay? But I do think that devon deserves to have a relationship with his father and I’ll do what I need to do to make that happen. That’s all.
Jack: No, you’re not helping. You’re just taking advantage.
Ashley: That’s your opinion. What do you need to hear from me? I promise you. I– I don’t have any intentions of reconnecting with tucker on any level. This is about a father and son.
Jack: Exploiting a parent-child relationship is wrong and you know that.
Ashley: I’m not exploiting anybody. I’m not forcing anyone to do anything. This should make sense to you because even though we hated what dina did to us and to our father. We all wish we had more time with her. Right?
Jack: Tucker is not dina. You are meddling and you should be walking away.
Ashley: Okay. Just hear me out. I know that tucker needs and wants devon’s love and approval more than anything. And devon needs and wants a relationship with his father. I don’t see anything wrong with nudging that in the right direction. And just listen. Full disclosure, if all this kumbaya means that tucker decides to back off of jabot. Wouldn’t that be wonderful? Wouldn’t it? It could actually happen because nobody can tap into tucker’s humanity like devon.
Jack: I still think we should go with my plan. Release the dirt we have on him and let it destroy the man.
Ashley: The stakes aren’t high enough with your plan. So if– if you publish that article and it doesn’t stop tucker, we’ve got nothing left, jack.
Diane: Jack, I’m sorry but I– I have to agree with ashley. I mean, right now it could just inflame tucker.
Kyle: Yeah. I think we should go with ashley’s plan. See if reconnecting with his son changes tucker’s course.
Jack: Well, it appears I’m outnumbered.
Ashley: Oh. So? Does that mean you’re gonna back off of releasing that article?
Jack: Yeah, we can sit on it a bit longer. At least we know we have it if we need it.
[ Phone ringing] Sorry, I have to take this. Excuse me.
[ Ashley sighs ] Hello?
Ashley: Okay. Well, I need to go too. Thanks. I’ll see you both later.
[ Door shuts ]
Chance: Voicemail. Hey, grandma, it’s chance. Uh, when you get a minute, I’d love to meet up with you and talk. Call me back.
Nina: Thank you. For taking the first step.
Chance: Yeah. Well, we’ll see what happens. Okay?
Nina: Oh, my goodness. A suit and tie? That’d be so cute. I can’t wait to see that every day.
Chance: No, no, no. Don’t get ahead of yourself. I’m gonna meet with her. I’m gonna get some information and try to understand what this means. Okay?
Nina: Look, you’re not gonna talk me out of being happy about this. Okay?
Chance: Wait, wait. What was that? You said every day?
Nina: Yeah, it’d be terrible for you, wouldn’t it?
Chance: Well, no, I think it’d be– it’d be kind of nice to have you around.
Nina: Well, I don’t know all my plans at the moment. But you’re not getting rid of me just yet.
Chance: Okay. I’ll take it.
Nina: Yeah. You talk a good game. But if I was around all the time, you’d get sick of me nagging.
Chance: Ah, yes. I definitely would. It doesn’t mean I don’t want you around here, though.
Nina: Oh, I love you so much, my son.
Chance: I love you.
Jill: I’m not sure about this. This is risky.
Devon: But you do think it could work though, right?
Jill: Well, there’s no guarantee and I can tell you it requires a level of trust that I’m not feeling right now.
Devon: No. I– I understand that and I know we would be putting ourselves on the line. But I really do think that this plan is the best way to get the information that we need.
Jill: So, what do you think, lily?
Lily: I mean, I agree with the risk factor…
Jill: But is it worth it?
Lily: Well, I mean, it might be the only chance we have to figure out what tucker is really up to.
Devon: Yeah. And the first step is to uncover the threat.
Lily: And then once we know that then we can stop him in his tracks.
Devon: Right.
Jill: Boy, would that be a relief.
Devon: And I don’t know about both of you, but I sure would love to be able to throw tucker’s lies back into his face.
Jill: Oh, are you kidding? I would enjoy every second of it.
Devon: Yeah. And let him know that our company is not a toy to be played with.
Jill: Yep.
[ Knock on door ]
Devon: Are we all in agreement?
Lily: Yeah. Yes.
Devon: Yeah?
Jill: Let’s do this.
Devon: Okay, let’s do it. Hi. Come in you, two.
Nate: I was surprised to get the invitation.
Mamie: Pleasantly surprised.
Devon: Well, we all have something very important to discuss with you.
Diane: How do you feel?
Kyle: It feels good. I think I made the right decision.
Diane: I’m glad you took my advice to come back to jabot. It’s a good strategy and it will be wonderful to have you there.
Kyle: Taking the C.O.O. Position is one thing. The next, may not be as easy. I’m worried I’m out of my league.
Diane: Well, don’t second guess yourself. I have complete faith in you.
Kyle: I know what I need to do now.
Diane: Yeah. You are going to be the one to save jabot from tucker. Not ashley, not billy, but you. And once you do, you will forever have hero status and everything that comes with it.
Kyle: Mhm. Dad’s done so much for me. More than I deserve. I can’t let him down.
Diane: Yeah. And when your father finds out what you did for this family, he will be so proud of you. I already am.
Kyle: I need to talk to you.
Ashley: Have you spoken with devon?
Abby: I have, yes. He was just here. Why?
Ashley: I walked in on what looked like a very intense confrontation between him and tucker.
Abby: Yeah, he came here afterwards. It’s bad, mom. Devon is very upset.
Ashley: Mhm. Do you know what the fight was about?
Abby: Oh, you know, the usual. Tucker only caring about himself.
Ashley: Well, I know for a fact that tucker cares very deeply for his son.
Abby: Oh, really? Well, not enough to not lie to his son and secretly try to go after his company.
Ashley: Does he have proof of that?
Abby: Yes, he does, mom. I’m not sure what it is, but he has proof.
Ashley: Do you think there’s any chance of them recovering from this?
Abby: Devon says he’s done. And honestly, after this latest revelation, I think their relationship might be severed forever.
Ashley: Okay. Uh, yeah, I know that you’ve worked really hard at including tucker when it comes to dominic. And, uh, you did that when you didn’t want to. So how do you feel about this situation?
>>Abby: I mean, it doesn’t really matter how I feel about it. It’s devon and I see that he’s hurting. I mean, every time he trusts his dad he lets him down.
Ashley: So, how do you feel about maybe trying to mend things for the two of them?
Abby: How?
Ashley: I don’t know. Well, you could start by talking to devon. Just say exactly what you said to me and I’ll try to support you in any way I can.
Abby: Mom, devon is a big boy. I cannot make these decisions for him. And god forbid, I push him into a relationship with his father and he gets hurt again. I would never be able to forgive myself.
Ashley: Okay, well, isn’t he hurting already? Maybe there’s something we can do to ease the pain.
Mamie: So what are we doing here? Can I presume that we are ready to finalize nate’s return to chancellor-winters?
Devon: No. Not quite. We first need you to be honest with us.
Mamie: Okay, about what?
Devon: About your real intentions. Because we all know that you and tucker have some sort of plan in the works.
Jill: A plan that involves ousting me.
Lily: And there’s no point in denying it. We know the truth.
Mamie: Tucker has made some investments in my company.
Jill: Oh, please. This is not just about funds. You and tucker are colluding to exercise your mutual goals.
Nate: Wait. So then have you just been using me? As some part of your overall plan?
Mamie: Not at all, baby. I’ve been telling you the truth. I’m just trying to get you back into the family.
Devon: Yeah. But you were willing to lie to all of us to make that happen.
Mamie: I no longer have any affiliation with your father. And I told him that to his face when I became aware of some of his many transgressions.
Jill: Why should we believe anything you say?
Mamie: You can trust me. My ultimate goal has always been to unite our family under one corporate umbrella. That has never changed.
Devon: Well, mamie, if that is the truth, then we’re gonna give you an opportunity to prove it.
Mamie: Okay. Then just tell me how.
Devon: You need to tell us what tucker’s real agenda is. ‘Cause I imagine you have an idea. And if you can do that, we can start to consider bringing nate back to chancellor-winters. But only if you are honest with us.
Audra: Kyle is reaching out. You were right.
Tucker: Reel him back in.

Ashley: Mm. I have so much respect for you. You’re so good at that. You’re so good at balancing your work life and your home life. I mean, I’m just not good at it, Mamie.
Mamie: You know, I didn’t know that much about tucker McCall, other than that he was Katherine chancellor’s son. I know that jack didn’t like him very much. I just never understood why.
Ashley: Well, Jack’s just being Jack and protective of me and Jabot, and I’m not sure in what order.
Mamie: Oh, now, now. Jack adores you.
Ashley: Oh, I know. I like him, too, most of the time.
******************
Kyle: Tucker. Tucker. Tucker. You’re making a big mistake.
Tucker: It’s not a mistake, son. It’s self-preservation, pure and simple.
Kyle: First of all, I’m not your son. And second, if you believe I have any professional allegiance to my father, then you haven’t been listening. He hasn’t shown me any, so why would I be loyal to him?
Tucker: Because he’s your father, and he’s given you everything you have, and I’m not sure I believe that you’d be willing to just blow that up when the time comes.
Kyle: Watch me light a match

Ashley: Please don’t. I can’t take the small talk.
Tucker: Okay. Well, you have rejected every effort I’ve made to reconnect and talk things out so far, so I assume you must have something very pertinent and, uh, important on your mind.
Ashley: I think it’s important, yeah.
Tucker: Well, don’t tell me, let me guess. You’d like to know what nefarious scheme I have plotted against your family, right? I can clear that up for you right now. None. And I made that clear to jack as well.
Ashley: Okay.
Tucker: Okay.
Ashley: I hope it’s true.
Tucker: So, are you here to try to chase me out of town? Jack and Billy already tried and failed. Pathetically, I might add.
Ashley: Um, why don’t you just shut up and I’ll tell you why I’m here tucker.
Tucker: Oh, yes, ma’am.
********************
Tucker: Yeah, I wish I could believe your apology, but unfortunately, I don’T.
Ashley: I didn’t think it was gonna be easy.
Tucker: That’s the problem. It seems a little too easy. You want some coffee?
Ashley: Sure. I’d love a cup.
Tucker: Because, uh, I texted you recently and I asked you if there was any way back from where we are and you responded with a very emphatic no. So, what happened? Did you have some kind of change of heart over boston or cincinnati on the flight home?
Ashley: Not really a change of heart. Maybe I just started listening to my heart.
Tucker: Oh, yeah. Wouldn’t that be peachy? Except I see right through you, Ashley. You’re hoping I will let my guard down.
Ashley: Yeah, well, jack said you were gonna react like this.
Tucker: Jack said? Ha. Oh, you gotta love the irony.
Ashley: Yeah. Actually, I don’t love anything about this. Not even a little bit. It’s a struggle.
Tucker: Okay. Well, just for kicks, let’s pretend I did believe your apology. What would this I’m sorry of yours actually look like?

Nikki: Your father seems to think someone is scheming against him and they’re going to betray him soon and this is his idea of how to trick them into revealing themselves.
Victoria: Me though? He suspects me? I mean, how could he think I would stoop so low to use his mental struggles against him? Just because he demoted me? I mean, does he think that little of me, mom?
Nikki: No, of course not. He adores you. He adores both of you. Never doubt that.
Victoria: Well, then I just don’t understand.
Nikki: Well, personally, I think this is all Adam’s fault. After years of being double-crossed by his own son, victor now wonders if he can trust anybody he’s close to.
Victoria: That might be true, but it’s not an excuse. And I’m not sure that I can forgive him.
*****************
Nick: You know what, it doesn’t really matter how we handle the situation. The bottom line is when you find out someone you love is faking a decline in order to expose a traitor, it’s not an everyday occurrence. I think we all reacted accordingly.
Nikki: True.
Nick: So let’s not dwell on the previous rotten weeks. What is important is what we do going forward.
Nikki: If we could only figure out what that is.
Victoria: Actually, Nick has an idea that might help move things along.
Nikki: Oh, I’d love to hear it
Nick: Simple. We just go along with it. We act like we’re buying dad’s condition, while dad continues to set his trap. Hopefully, Adam walks right into it.
Nikki: Or Nate.

Sally: No, don’t get me wrong. I was right there too. I just– it would be very easy to just blame it all on you, but the truth is you were just being honest with me about where your heart is. It’s just not what I wanted to hear.
Adam: Well, it wouldn’t be the first time that I, uh, I didn’t read the room.
Sally: I think the kiss confused us both.
Adam: Yeah. Maybe. I don’t know. Maybe it was just me doing what I always do. Bulldozing my way through without any regard whatsoever for what you really wanted, which was nick. You know, you had a right to be resistant. I poison whatever it is I touch.
Sally: Adam.
Adam: No, it’s– it’s the truth. You know, sometimes I think that I’m just cursed to be this– this catalyst of bad fortune. And it’s not that I try to be, but sometimes I just always end up in the middle of it. With my career, my relationship, family. Even when I have good intentions and god knows I have not always had them, I just always manage to screw it up. With you, my father.
******************
Adam: You know, you’re really good at this.
Sally: What?
Adam: Pep talks. I’m sure when you get your new company off the ground, you’re gonna be an inspiring boss.
Sally: Thank you.
Adam: Mm-hmm. I know that you inspire me.
Sally: So, are you gonna do it?
Adam: You’re forgetting one thing, big thing, in between me and Nick.
Sally: No, I’m definitely not forgetting it. And I do know that I am part of the conflict between the two of you, but this is way bigger than that too. And Nick will eventually see that if you tell him what you just told me.

Summer: Wow.
Daniel: Mm-hmm.
Summer: Okay. What are we calling this style? Bachelor pad chic? I mean, I don’t see an air mattress or a foosball table, but I actually think that you have room for one over here.
Daniel: Don’t worry, foosball table’s coming. Beer pong table is gonna be over here along with the kegerator.
Summer: Very swanky. But I actually like that lamp. I mean, if it was in a different place, I would like it.
Daniel: Yeah, my designer has great taste.
Summer: Lily?
Daniel: No, I hired someone. Sally spectra.
Summer: Nice.
Daniel: I know. Look, she just launched a new design firm. Lily suggested that I call her.
Summer: Yeah, because why would you want to consult with your sibling who’s in the design industry?
Daniel: I just figured that you know, you’d be busy running a big fashion company.
Summer: Oh, stop. You thought that I would be pushy and decorate how I wanted, not how you wanted.
Daniel: No, that’s not it.
Summer: Eh?
Daniel: Yes, maybe that was it.
Summer: For your coffee table.
Daniel: Thank you. Oh, this is really cool. Thank you.
Summer: Yeah.
Daniel: So, um, I heard chance got shot.
Summer: Yeah, it’s pretty awful.
Chance: How is he? Have you heard?
Sharon: Okay, so tell me! What’s the latest? How is aria doing with her hearing aids?
Tessa: Sharon, you saw her yesterday.
Sharon: But she’s a baby. She’s going to make changes and progress on a daily basis and I want to hear all the details. So, how is she adapting to them?
Mariah: Uh, well, I– I can say the kid likes what she likes and she knows what she doesn’t like. We’ve used all of the tips that dr. George suggested.
Tessa: And aria is able to handle the hearing aids for about an hour, but after that, no way.
Mariah: No.
Sharon: Okay, but still, an hour, that’s amazing.
Mariah: Yeah. And to see her little face, her reactions. I mean, it’s obvious she can hear us, which is great.
Tessa: Oh, we read her a bedtime story last night. Mariah was doing all these different voices.
Mariah: And just smiling and giggling and laughing. I’m highly entertaining, clearly.
Sharon: And you didn’t video chat me? Okay. I see how it is.
Mariah: Well, uh, actually we’ll do that later because right now, you have a visitor.
Lily: Thank you.
Devon: You’re welcome.
Jill: Did nate tell you why he wanted us to meet?
Lily: No, he just texted me and devon seeing if we could be here and if you would meet us here as well.
Jill: Damn right. I can’t wait to hear about this.
[ Knocking on door ]
Devon: I will get it. Hey.
Claire: Almost time for a new one. You’ve had a lot already, but… I need you nice and calm until everyone arrives. The big family reunion.
Jill: What is she doing here? What’s going on?
Mamie: Calm down, jill. I’m here because nate wants me here.
Nate: I asked aunt mamie to come along as family for moral support.
Mamie: Now, this is your business. I’m not saying another word.
Jill: No, you won’T. We do have something we have to discuss though, mamie. Now is not the time nor the place though.
Mamie: Well, I’m looking forward to hearing whatever’s on your mind, jill.
Lily: So, nate, what did you want to talk to us about?
Nate: Yes. Um, lily, devon, I’m here because I’m hoping we can take a step closer towards repairing our relationship. Make amends. And if you’ll have me, I would like to return to chancellor-winters.
Summer: Uh, I saw chance in the hospital.
Daniel: Really?
Summer: Yeah, we’re friends. Um, the bullet went through his upper chest, near his shoulder area, so it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.
Daniel: Lucky guy, I guess. I mean, if you can call someone who’s been shot, lucky.
Summer: Yeah, and somebody that wasn’t supposed to be in the field at all. But, uh, yeah, he’s supposed to be getting out of the hospital today, so.
Daniel: Hm. And have things changed since the last time we talked about you and chance?
Summer: There is no me and chance, daniel.
Daniel: Right. But you said–
Summer: That I had some feelings. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know what I said.
Daniel: Well, I just thought maybe things had moved on from there.
Summer: No. Nothing has changed. Chance is still with sharon and I’m not gonna get in the middle of it.
Daniel: Come on. They haven’t been together for that long. It can’t be that serious, right?
Summer: What are you suggesting? That I– I try to break them up?
Daniel: I’m merely suggesting that maybe chance has feelings for you too. Maybe this thing with sharon has run its course.
Summer: You know, you sound like mom, right? Trying to play matchmaker.
Daniel: Wow. Okay. It was just a question.
Summer: Look, chance just sees me as a friend. So, it’s kind of pointless to hope for more.
Sharon: You’re up and around and you’re here. Should you be? Is this allowed? Do you wanna sit down?
Chance: I look all right, right?
Sharon: You look wonderful.
Mariah: Chance, we are super glad that it wasn’t anything more serious.
Sharon: I want to hug you, but I don’t want to hurt you.
Chance: No. Are you kidding me? Come here. Get in here.
Sharon: What did the doctor say? How long is is the recovery gonna take?
Tessa: How long do you have to wear that sling? I mean, maybe we could get you one that’s more stylish.
Chance: What’s wrong with this one?
Mariah: What about the person that shot you? What happens to him?
Chance: Well–
Nina: A text? I get a text to meet you here. What is wrong with you? Why didn’t you let me pick you up from the hospital?
Chance: Ooh, I felt this coming. I’m sorry. I just– I didn’t want you to worry.
Nina: Oh, come on, I’m your mother. I’m always gonna worry about you. Besides, you give me no choice. All of the times I wanted to come to your side and couldn’T. And now I’m here in town and I get a text?
Mariah: You’re in trouble.
Tessa: This might be worse than a bullet.
Chance: Well, you know what? The chief of police can handle checking out of the hospital on his own, okay?
Nina: No, no. You’re my son, not chief of police. Hi, my name is damion clark. If you have both medicare and medicaid, i have some really encouraging news that you’ll definitely want to hear. Chance: Mom…
Sharon: What conversation is that?
Chance: I just admitted that getting shot this time reminded me of getting shot last time. And the other situations where my life was on the line.
Nina: He’s questioning whether it’s time for a career change.
Chance: Questioning. That’s all. I’m not making any decisions.
Nina: Chance, you gotta trust your gut, you know? If you feel it’s time to go, then it’s time to go. You’ve spent so many years serving the public in so many ways. Just, when is it enough?
Chance: I understand that. I’ve just become chief though. Okay? You know, I’m just not really sure if walking away is the right move right now.
Nina: Well get sure.
[ Chance chuckling ]
Chance: Yeah. It’s on my mind. Don’t worry. There’s just a lot to consider. And you know what? I would honestly like sharon’s opinion on this.
Daniel: You know, that was a low blow comparing me to mom.
Summer: It stings. I know. Okay, enough about me and my love life. Let’s talk about you and your love life.
Daniel: Oh, no. No, thank you.
Summer: Oh, you don’t want to do that?
Daniel: Uh-uh.
Summer: Is there a reason?
[ Knocking on door ]
Daniel: That sounds like a pretty good reason. Hey.
Lucy: Hi, dad.
Daniel: Oh, luce and, uh, friend. Cool. Come on in. Yeah.
Heather: Hi.
Daniel: Hi. Good, good.
Lucy: Summer, hi.
Summer: Hi.
Lucy: It’s so good to see you.
Summer: Good to see you.
Lucy: Dad, you have furniture?
Daniel: I have some, yes. More is coming.
Lucy: What about my bedroom?
Daniel: Uh, your mattress should be here in a couple of days, I believe. Um, you know, I’m just gonna go ahead and ask. What’s with the pineapple?
Lucy: Oh, right. Um, happy housewarming.
Heather: On the way over here, lucy asked if we should bring you some kind of gift. So, I stopped at the grocery store to pick up this and uh, lucy insisted that she bring you a pineapple as well.
Daniel: Oh…
Lucy: You see pineapples all over savannah. Remember, dad? They mean welcome and hospitality. So, yeah.
Daniel: Normally, you see them on the front door or the stair railing, but hey, one you can eat. It’s great.
Summer: So much better.
Daniel: So much better. You know what? I love it. Thank you.
Lucy: You’re welcome.
Heather: In addition to welcoming you with alcohol and fruit, I wanted to share some good news.
Daniel: Okay?
Heather: I have an interview this afternoon at chancellor-winters for a position on their legal team.
Lucy: Isn’t that great, dad?
Daniel: It’s fantastic.
Heather: Thank you so much, daniel for, you know, making it happen.
Daniel: I think you should probably be thanking lily. Look, I hope that this all works out for you. I don’t know what I’m saying. Of course, it’s gonna work out. I mean, you’re gonna crush that interview.
Devon: Okay. So, you wanna come back to chancellor-winters?
Nate: I do.
Lily: Well, I mean, it’s not surprising. Aunt mamie’s been pushing for it.
Devon: All you’ve been talking about the last few months is how happy you are at newman and how much they respect you and how great of a boss victoria is. So, what’s changed?
Nate: Uh, I’m no longer at newman.
Devon: Did you blow things up with them like you did with us?
Nate: It depends on who you ask.
Lily: What does that mean?
Nate: Well, you all know victor retook the ceo seat.
Devon: Yeah, and demoted victoria.
Nate: Yep. So, he stepped in, made some changes. Uh, put nikki in charge of newman media, appointed adam as my assistant.
Jill: Oh, that man does love a good power play, doesn’t he?
Nate: Yep. Then he proceeded to lay a trap for his children and me. Because he suspected someone was going to betray him.
Jill: Oh, victor, of course you did.
Devon: What exactly did he do?
Nate: He pretended to be ill. Faked confusion, memory loss. He was trying to see who might take advantage of his mental decline.
Lily: That’s horrible. He let his children think that he was dying like ashland locke did with victoria?
Nate: Well, not dying. He just wanted them to think he lost his grip on reality.
Lily: How is that any better?
Jill: Oh, my god. But that is such a victor newman move if I ever heard one.
Lily: Okay. So, sorry. What does it have to do with you leaving the company?
Devon: Yeah. Did you figure out what he was doing and then call him out?
Nate: No. Just the opposite. I fell for the charade. I tried to protect the man. Get him the help. And it blew up in my face.
Claire: I’m not really surprised you tried to escape. You love to talk about how strong you are. How you can handle anything. This must be so strange for you. To be so vulnerable, not in charge of anything. You must have so many questions. Aunt jordan will explain everything. Once everyone’s here. If I tried to tell you, I’m afraid I’d get too emotional. I’m usually good at keeping everything inside, but this… this is too big. Too important. You could say I’ve been waiting for this thanksgiving my whole life. All right. Time to go set things in motion. Sweet dreams, nikki. Enjoy them while you can.
Nate: I thought I would discreetly get victor the treatment he needed. Take him to an out-of-the-way place where there’d be no chance of media leaks.
Jill: Like a facility or a clinic or something?
Nate: Yes. Yes. And it was a good plan. But victor saw it as me trying to get him out of the way so victoria and I could take control.
Devon: And that’s not what you were trying to do?
Nate: No. Not at all. I was concerned about the man and I wanted him to get proper treatment. But victor was hell-bent on finding a traitor. So he decided that’s what I was.
Jill: Oh, not you. You would never turn on anyone for your own advancement.
Nate: I’ve owned that in the past, jill, and i wouldn’t do that this time. Not with a man’s well-being at stake.
Devon: So, there was no part of you that thought that this was a good opportunity maybe to get victoria back to the top spot?
Nate: My only objective was to protect victor’s health and well-being. My plan accomplished both.
Devon: Okay. But why would victor fire you if he didn’t have any proof of what he thought you were doing?
Nate: I made arrangements for him to be placed in a facility. I set it up proactively so that things can move smoothly and quickly.
Devon: So, you committed him without his consent?
Nate: It was to assure he’d have a place set if needed. That is all. The one who was gunning to take advantage of victor’s weakness was adam.
Devon: And there’s proof of that?
Nate: Adam himself is the proof.
Lily: But victor didn’t see it?
Nate: Adam is playing the redeemed black sheep. So, victor feels the need to believe his son is sincere. Adam is family, I’m not.
Lily: So basically, now that you’re out of a job, you want us to forgive you and welcome you back to chancellor-winters.
Mamie: Welcome him back into the family, where he belongs.
Summer: So, I need to take off.
Heather: Oh, uh, summer, I hope you’re not leaving because of us. Because if– if you and daniel were in the middle of something, we can go.
Summer: No. No, please. You two stay. I gotta go pick up food and get back to work anyway. Lucy, so good to see you. I hope that walnut grove treats you well. Heather, welcome home. And you, invite me over when sally’s done with this place. I kind of want to see what she comes up with.
Daniel: Yeah, of course.
Lucy: Well, I am gonna go see my room. I was thinking of a mural wall.
Daniel: Mural wall? Hey, luce. Hey, luce. What kind of mural? Hey, what kind of mural are you thinking? Cool. Awesome. What?
Heather: Well, summer seems very curious about, uh, our dynamic.
Mariah: Well, we are gonna let you guys talk. It was good to see you, mom, and you, nina. Chance, we’re so happy that you’re out of the hospital, on the mend.
Tessa: I second all of that.
Sharon: Well, I’m gonna come by later so I can hang out with aria.
Mariah: Uh, yeah. We’ll put the hearing aids in for your visit. It’ll be great.
Tessa: Oh, she’s gonna love hearing her grandma’s voice.
Mariah: Bye, you guys.
Tessa: Bye.
Sharon: Bye.
Chance: Well, not to put too fine of a point on it, but I am starving.
Nina: I’m sorry, when are you not starving? The appetite on this one. Since he was a kid.
Chance: I barely got to eat anything in the hospital. So, why don’t I take my two favorite ladies to breakfast?
Jill: Mamie, dear. You did promise that you wouldn’t intrude on our discussion.
Mamie: No. What I said was that I would not intrude on any business discussion. This is much more than that.
Jill: Is it?
Mamie: Yes. This is about the cousins, lily, devon and nate taking a giant step towards reconciliation. And this is the very thing that my whole journey has been about.
Jill: Nate, why should we bring you back to chancellor-winters? I’m having a very hard time buying you as a team player. I mean, you just keep bouncing back between companies, pissing everybody off as you go.
Nate: Well, jill, um, I learned a lot since my departure from chancellor-winters. I’m past the need to prove myself at every turn, no matter the cost. I have a new appreciation for the value of collaboration. I’m better at knowing when to speak up and when to listen. I’ve also learned that my way or the highway isn’t gonna get me very far. I’m more flexible than I used to be. Point is, I’ve learned a lot from my wins, my losses, my highs, my lows, and more importantly, the meaning of family. I’m ready to be the best man for the job. And a proper cousin to you two, my family.
Abby: Chance. Hey, I had no idea that you were out of the hospital. That must mean that you’re doing well, right?
Chance: I’m doing better. Thank you. And thanks for coming by the hospital. I was a little groggy when you did, but I remember you being there. That’s about it.
Abby: Don’t worry about it. I’m just so thankful that you’re okay. And whenever you’re ready to see dominic, we will set up a visit.
Chance: I would love that. Thank you. Thank you.
Abby: Well, um, breakfast is on me.
Nina: Oh. Hey, abby, can you take a break for a few minutes and join us?
Abby: Um, sure. Okay.
Nina: So, I’m just curious. As dom’s mother, how would you feel if chance quit law enforcement? Just chose a totally different career?
Chance: Mom, mom, mom, mom, please. Don’t put her on the spot, please.
Nina: Just– just curious.
Abby: It’s fine. Um, when chance and I were married, I was constantly living in fear that something bad was going to happen to him. And then, something bad did happen. Spain. We know all about that. So, um, just because we’re not together anymore doesn’t mean that I stopped worrying about chance. I still care about you. And dominic thinks the world of you and someday, he’s gonna worry about you too. Here we are, we are sitting here talking about chance being shot at work, again. So, if you’re talking about walking away from the force, I’m all for it.
Nikki: Mm. As someone living with type 2 diabetes,
[ Nikki exhaling ]
Nikki: I can’t stay here. I have to find my phone. And victor. I have to call victor.
[ Nikki panting ]
Daniel: Our dynamic? We have a dynamic?
Heather: Well, come on, daniel. I saw the look your sister gave you and she sent a few my way as well. What’s, uh, what’s going on?
Daniel: Summer, you know, she’s just worried that you moving back to town, it’s gonna dredge up my old demons. I’m gonna be reminded of my spiral and I’m gonna spiral again.
Heather: She thinks it’s my fault?
Daniel: No. No, she is well aware that it was my fault. But, you know, she also knows how ashamed I was of the place that I got to when things got so dark for me. And come on, you must have thought about this stuff too. It must have crossed your mind.
Heather: No. It hasn’t, daniel. I know you’re in a better headspace now. I know you’re not going to hurt me and most importantly, lucy, like before. If I didn’t believe that, I wouldn’t have moved back here.
Daniel: Well, thank you for the support. And for the vote of confidence.
Heather: Daniel, I like who you are now. Very, very much. I mean, you have to know that, don’t you?
Abby: I mean, chance, if you did decide to walk away from the force, what would you do instead? Would you go back to security consulting or private detective?
Chance: Mm… professional baseball player, maybe? No? No? No, honestly, I’ve given zero thought to it because I don’t think I’m done being chief just yet.
Sharon: It’s a big decision, chance, which we all respect.
Chance: Thank you, sharon.
Nina: You know, maybe you should consider the corporate world. What if, you know, big business was your true calling?
Chance: Where did that come from?
Nina: Well, you– you’re a chancellor, son. I mean, big business would be a natural field for you. Don’t you think?
Summer: Chance, you’re out of the hospital. How are you feeling?
Chance: Hey, not too bad. I tell you, this thing is getting me a lot of sympathy.
Summer: Well, you deserve it.
Chance: Oh.
Nate: I’ve kept up with what’s happening at chancellor-winters. I read all the business press. Uh, so I’m up to speed on what’s been accomplished. I think I can be of use in a number of areas. And like aunt mamie said, I want to feel like I’m part of the family again.
Lily: Well, those are two separate things. So, do you want to be welcome back into the family or do you want a job now that you’re unemployed?
Nate: Lily, I miss you. And you too, devon. Look, our estrangement has gone on too long. I– I hate that we’re not as close as we used to be.
Mamie: So do I.
Nate: And so does my mom. I wanna make her proud. And malcolm and my dad and dru and neil. I know we can get there. Look, neil and malcolm always found a way back from their issues. And lily, you know, dru and my mom clashed plenty, but they always made up.
Jill: Okay. Nate, I really appreciate you putting yourself on the line like you did. That wasn’t easy and I do believe you were sincere when you said that you regretted betraying us in the past. But now, devon and lily and I have to discuss whether we want you back and lily, you know, dru and my mom clashed plenty, but they always made up.
Jill: Okay. Nate, I really appreciate you putting yourself on the line like you did. That wasn’t easy and I do believe you were sincere when you said that you regretted betraying us in the past. But now, devon and lily and I have to discuss whether we want you back at chancellor-winters.
Lily: Yeah, we’ll talk about it.
Devon: And no promises.
Nate: Thank you for listening. Aunt mamie.
Mamie: Oh, and jill, I do look forward to us having a discussion about our issues.
Jill: Oh, I do too, mamie. Don’t you worry.
Devon: I’ll walk you two out. See you.
Jill: Well. Hm.
Lily: Uh, I don’t know. I mean, he seemed sincere.
Jill: Mm-hmm.
Lily: And honest and, I mean, I know that we all believe in second chances. I know I wouldn’t be here without them.
Jill: Yep.
Devon: Yeah. But let’s, like, take a second and really think about this. ‘Cause I don’t think that he’d care at all about chancellor-winters if he hadn’t gotten fired. And this is now what? Two strikes on him in the corporate world? One from us, one from newman? And I think I’d like to learn a little more about that victor story before we just go ahead and make a decision.
Lily: No. Yeah, you’re right. I mean, he could be lying to us.
Jill: I don’t think he was lying. I don’t think he was making that whole thing up. It sounds too much like victor newman. And he knows how easy it would be for us to check it out. You would just say something to abby and she would talk to her siblings.
Devon: Sure. Yeah. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that his intentions weren’t self-serving. Or at least serving victoria.
Lily: Jill, what do you think about nate coming back?
Jill: Would it have been my first choice? No. He crossed a hell of a line trying to sell us out. But I do agree with you. I think he was being sincere. So, yeah, I might be persuaded to give it a try if nate is being straight with us because, whoa, we’re gonna need all the support we can get right now.
Devon: What does that mean, jill?
Summer: Thank you.
Abby: Summer. Hey. Um, I think we need to talk.
Summer: Yeah. What about?
Abby: What’s going on with you and chance?
Summer: I don’t– I don’t know what you’re talking about. Oh, my god. I guess it really is that obvious, huh?
Lily: I know what jill is talking about.
Devon: Okay. Does anybody want to let me know what jill’s talking about?
Lily: I was gonna tell you today. I just– I know that you’ve been really trying to work things out with tucker.
Devon: Okay. And?
Lily: There’s evidence that tucker is involved with mamie’s investment in chancellor-winters.
Devon: I know that’s what we thought.
Lily: No, we have the proof. I’ve seen it. So not only does mamie have a vested interest in chancellor-winters, but so does tucker.
Jill: And that interest most likely involves getting rid of me.
Devon: And what’s this evidence that you found?
Lily: Tucker has been making investments with mamie’s firm, L.B.B. And it’s not a coincidence. I mean, they are colluding somehow.
Mamie: Oh, I’m so proud of you, nathan jr. You handled everything just right today. Your cousins would be foolish not to have you back into the family business.
Nate: Thank you for the vote of confidence, aunt mamie. But I’m not so sure if that’s gonna happen. I mean, sure we’ve taken steps in the right direction, but it’s obvious devon needs more time or more convincing to forgive me. If he ever does. And that whole victor fiasco surely didn’t help.
Mamie: Well, I think he’ll get there. And if he doesn’t, you just leave him to me. I think I can get him across the finish line.
Nina: Well, thank you, dear, for breakfast. I have to, um, jump on a call with my agent, but do you want me to drop you at your apartment so you can get some rest?
Chance: Uh, you know what? I think I’m gonna stick around here for a while. If that’s okay with you.
Sharon: I’ll suffer through.
Nina: Okay, good. I’ll see you.
Chance: See you.
Nina: I love you, sweetheart.
Chance: I love you more.
Nina: Bye, sharon.
Sharon: Bye.
Chance: Hi.
Sharon: Hi.
Chance: I missed you.
Sharon: I missed you too. So, now that it’s just the two of us, how do you really feel about possibly leaving the force and doing something else?
Chance: We talked about this before.
Sharon: Yeah. And you said that as frustrating as it can be sometimes, especially with folks who believe that the law doesn’t apply to them and as dangerous as it can get on occasion, you liked helping people and keeping them safe.
Chance: Yeah. And you know what? I felt really good about being chief. I hate the idea of leaving my guys in the lurch, you know? But hey, I guess getting shot is a pretty good reason to rethink your life.
Sharon: Well, whatever you decide is fine by me. I hope you know that. I just don’t want you to feel pressured into making a decision.
Chance: Thank you. Really. No, I promise, I’m gonna do what’s best for me.
[ Nikki groaning ]
Nikki: Oh, I feel so weak and light-headed. Like I’ve been…
[ Nikki inhaling ] Oh, my god. No. No. No.
[ Nikki panting ] No.
Jordan: Don’t get soft on me now, claire.
Claire: Aunt jordan.
Jordan: We have waited so long and we’re so very, very close.
Narrator: Next week on the young and the restless…
Jill: Come to work with me at chancellor-winters. Honey, I will teach you the ropes of the business world.
Abby: Well, it is so good to see all of you. Michael, gloria, I’m glad that you’re home and I’m glad that you kept her out of prison.
Nikki: Oh, god. What have I done?

Ashley: I bet you’re happy to see me, right?
Diane: Yeah. You know, we’re never going to be besties, but we are family. So peace for Jack’s sake?
Ashley: Absolutely. You saved my life.
Diane: Oh, there is that.
Ashley: So, I will try very hard not to hate you.
Diane: Well, I will try hard not to hate you back.
Ashley: Great. How’s everybody, anyway?
Diane: Um, uh, well, Kyle left this morning. I haven’t seen him. Traci, I think she had dinner plans, and, oh, my grandson is upstairs getting ready for his bath.
Ashley: Oh, my grandson. I have to see Dominic tomorrow. Absolutely.
Diane: Ashley.
Ashley: Yeah.
Diane: Um, hey, I’m– I’m sorry about the way your marriage turned out. I mean, I– I– I don’t know your side of things directly, of course, but, um, there is no doubt in my mind that tucker is to blame for whatever happened.
Ashley: Yeah. You know what? It’s okay. We don’t really have to dwell on that, okay?

Jack: When I realized you were listening in, I was tempted to beat you at your own game.
Tucker: All right.
Jack: Yes. Some fake conversations, send you charging off in the wrong direction. The entertainment value was hard to pass up.
Tucker: But you did, pass it up.
Jack: Well, I realized I didn’t want to stoop to your level.
Tucker: There’s good old Jack, righteous as ever.
Jack: I don’t need to stoop to your level. See, I have no doubt in my mind, the Abbotts will always have the upper hand where you’re concerned, so whatever it is you’re really up to here, whatever it is you want to accomplish, I have some advice. Give it up. Go away, back to your monastery or your mountain top. Anywhere but here.
Tucker: No, I like being close to my son and my grandson. Besides, running away is really not my style. It sounds like more of an Abbott trait.

Young & The Restless Transcript

Nikki: Claire! Claire, answer me!
[ Nikki sighing ] All right, I have to think. I have to think. What is happening? What arrangements is she making in genoa city? What do you want from me? All right. Just calm down. You’ve dealt with worse than this. All that matters right now is getting out of here. I can figure this out. I can do this and when I’m out… there’ll be hell to pay!
Victoria: Why am I not surprised that you two are here? You’ve just come from being with dad. Am I right?
Adam: Yes, we have.
Victoria: And you want to try to convince me to stay on at newman because now you are the good and faithful son all of a sudden. Even though everybody knows that’s a lie, except for dad, who’s desperate to believe it because otherwise, you’re just a reminder that not everything victor newman touches is golden.
Adam: Yeah. And you hate the fact that maybe I did the right thing, for the right reasons. Because then you would have to take me seriously and would consider that victor might actually trust me. And that terrifies you, doesn’t it?
Victoria: No. See what terrifies me actually is that you might blow up the family and the company. But on a personal level, not a chance.
Nick: Okay. Will you two just stop, okay? Things are actually blowing up around us and we need to figure out a way on how to fix it.
Adam: You’re right. I’m sorry, victoria.
Victoria: I’m so sorry, adam.
Nick: There we go. That was nice. Okay, let’s get to the point of why we’re here. Vic, what is it gonna take to convince you to stay at newman?
Lily: So, what do you think?
Jill: I think it’s beautiful. It may have been devon’s before, but you certainly made it your own. This is a lovely place to call home, honey.
Lily: Yeah, I think so too. And with devon and abby at the chancellor house again…
Jill: Ah, yes, devon and abby. And with little dominic racing up and down the halls.
Lily: You think katherine would care about his little handprints on the walls?
Jill: I think katherine would frame those little handprints.
Lily: Ah, true. Can I get you something? Water? Coffee?
Jill: No, I can’t stay long and I assume you didn’t invite me over here to admire your décor, so–
Daniel: Actually, no, she didn’T. There’s been a development at chancellor-winters that you need to hear about.
Jill: What? Something’s happened.
Lily: Yeah, you could say that. Daniel learned more about mamie’s interest in the company.
Jill: Well, then I damn well want to know about it. Let’s hear it.
Daniel: The infiltration doesn’t stop with mamie. The man behind the curtain is none other than tucker mccall.
Jill: Tucker mccall and mamie johnson? Well, that is a match made in hell.
Audra: Thank you.
Tucker: Hey, I got your text. Where’s the fire?
Audra: Have a seat, tucker. You know, in fact, why don’t you grab a drink? You’re not gonna like this.
Diane: Kyle, what’s wrong?
Kyle: Um. Why don’t– why don’t you pour yourself a drink? You’re gonna need it. Hi, my name is damioniane: What’s going on?
Kyle: I hate doing this, for a bunch of reasons.
Diane: Doing what? What is it?
Kyle: It– it’s bad, mom. It’s bad. There will be a lot of “I told you so”s and a lot of groveling on my part to dad. But I– mom, I hope you’ll at least understand why I did the things I did.
Diane: All right. Go on.
Kyle: I’m ashamed and I’ve rationalized a lot to myself and now–
Diane: Kyle, sweetheart, look who you’re talking to. Whatever it is, I– I promise. No– no judgment. Just support, you know that, right?
Kyle: If I didn’t know that, I’d keep this to myself and let it eat me alive. Mom, I– I almost sold out dad and jabot. I almost sold out our entire family to tucker mccall.
Tucker: Okay. Hit me.
Audra: Um… kyle suddenly grew a conscience.
Tucker: Ah. How big of a conscience?
Audra: He’s backing out of our arrangement.
Tucker: And?
Audra: Tucker, there’s every possibility he’s gonna tell his father.
Tucker: Oh, I would say it’s a certainty. Jack already suspects I have something in the works. Kyle will confirm it. The abbotts are nothing, if not predictable.
[ Audra scoffing ]
Audra: So, you knew this was coming? You knew kyle would back out?
Victoria: Well, I gotta say, you know, this is quite a moment. The two of you working in tandem at dad’s command.
Nick: It wasn’t a command.
Adam: Actually, it was a command.
Victoria: You know, if dad ordered you to bring me back to newman, I’m afraid that he’s gonna be very disappointed and you are gonna let him down. I mean, of course, he knows that I would come back if you walk away. Or better yet, if he fires you. Otherwise, I’ll have to respectfully decline.
Adam: Well, there you go, nick. We got our answer. Do you want me to call dad or are you gonna do it?
Nick: What our dad wants is for the three of us to work together, okay? Now, a day ago, you were terrified about losing dad, right? Well, it turns out dad is the same victor newman he always has been. He wants the three of us to work together at his company, and he is not wrong.
Victoria: You know, I just think that that’s kind of funny. Coming from the guy that left newman.
Nick: Okay. That’s fair. I’ll admit it. I was wrong. My place is at newman and it always has been. I’m back, vic, 100%.
Victoria: Well, I guess two out of three isn’t bad. I hope you guys have a really wonderful time working together and I hope dad enjoys every minute of it.
Nick: Oh, come on. Are you really gonna do this to me?
Victoria: What, nicholas? What is being done to you?
Nick: I am stuck in the middle between dad and adam with no ally. Do you think that sounds appealing to me?
Victoria: Well, you’re the one that wants to stay on no matter what.
Nick: Look, we both know that eventually he’s gonna do something stupid and shoot himself in the foot. It is inevitable.
Adam: Okay. Not that I don’t treasure the kind words of encouragement, but need I remind you that I didn’t plan any of this. Now, victor seems to have confidence in me, so why can’t the two of you?
Nick: If adam implodes and no one is there to mitigate the fallout, he’s gonna drag dad and the company down with him.
Adam: You realize that I can hear you, right?
Nick: You need to stop talking and let me handle this.
Adam: Okay because you’re doing such a great job. I think you’ve actually got her on the hook–
Nick: Adam, enough.
Adam: Okay. I’m done. Not another peep from me.
Nick: Like it or not, this is an all-or-nothing scenario. Either the three of us work together or we’re all out and dad is gonna clean house.
Victoria: And yet somehow, adam will even survive that.
Adam: It’s a gift.
[ Lock clicking ]
Nick: Vic, think about it. Dad faked this mental decline to prove a point and it worked. Nate ended up showing his true colors.
Victoria: They’re not as malicious as you or dad wants to think.
Nick: This isn’t about nate. All right. Look, I hate even saying this out loud, but someday the decline is going to be real and do we want him to be the one who’s on the inside looking out for dad and the company?
Adam: Oh, perish the thought.
Nick: I thought you said you were gonna be quiet.
Adam: Oh, well, I lied.
Nick: Would we really be okay with letting him be in charge if, heaven forbid, something did happen to dad?
Victoria: Of course not. But you’ll be there, right?
Nick: Vic, we need each other, all right? We are the safety net between dad and adam.
[ Adam chuckling ]
Adam: My god, you two are unbelievable. I could negotiate world peace, I could cure cancer, eliminate global warming and feed the poor and you would still think, “that son of a bitch is still up to something.” Listen, I’m only gonna say this once, so listen carefully. All I care about is making this work. I don’t wanna best you. I have no interest in tanking the company and destroying my son’s inheritance, even to spite my loving siblings. Okay? Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll let you get back to your boring little tedious conspiring on how to shackle me and throw me into the newman dungeon. I care about one thing and one thing only: What our dad thinks. And as long as he’s got my back, I don’t care how much you two distrust me. But you know who will care about it? Victor newman. So good luck with that.
Nick: So, what’s it gonna be?
Daniel: My mother told me that tucker made some sizable investments through mamie’s financial firm. There you go.
Jill: So, has it been confirmed?
Daniel: Lily’s team verified it.
Lily: In and of itself, it proves nothing. But, I mean, why would tucker invest millions into an account that’s being managed by the same person who bought victor’s share of chancellor-winters?
Jill: Wow. Does devon know?
Daniel: No. No, he doesn’T. I wanted to get your reaction first and lily’s before dragging devon into it. I mean, his relationship with his father is already complicated. I didn’t really feel like it was my place to make matters any worse until we at least knew more.
Jill: Well, there’s no way that tucker isn’t involved in whatever it is mamie is up to. In fact, it was probably his idea in the first place.
[ Jill chuckling ] And she’s just too happy to go along with it. Those two really wanna screw me over. Both of them.
Tucker: I had a pretty good feeling kyle would choke. I said I would put him to the test and I meant it, but I knew the outcome. The kid just doesn’t have it in him.
Audra: So, you knew this would happen, but didn’t keep me in the loop?
Tucker: And run the risk of you overplaying your hand again? Why would I do that?
Audra: So, in other words, you’re putting me to the test as well. Do you trust anyone tucker?
Tucker: Mm-mm. And neither should you. And frankly, I’m a little disappointed in you.
Audra: For what?
Tucker: For not expecting kyle to do exactly what he did. You of all people should know that carnal attraction only goes so far.
Audra: Well, thank you for your deep and important life lessons.
Tucker: Plus, I learned all too brutally from ashley that– that abbott blood is– is thick as tar.
Audra: So, what now?
Tucker: You relax. We have a drink, we bide our time. This is all part of the process for junior. But believe me, we haven’t heard or seen the last of kyle abbott. So i
Kyle: You know how I felt I deserved to be reinstated as co-ceo of jabot. And not entitled, not nepoed in. Deserved.
Diane: Of course. And I wanted that for you and for jabot.
Kyle: Yeah, and we both knew that was never gonna happen. Dad was not gonna risk sending billy off the rails by taking his position away from him. And yeah, I was pissed.
Diane: I don’t blame you. Kyle, what did you do?
Kyle: I vented to audra and she tempted me with an offer.
Tucker: So, what kyle’s gonna do is confess to mommy and daddy as much of this as his courage will allow. And he’ll play the victim. “Poor me. Even after all I’ve done for jabot and all I’ve contributed.” Blah, blah, blah. And then you, jezebel. He will claim that you have, um, you’ve preyed on his emotions and tried to lure him into your web. Forced him to make bad choices, choices that involve tucker mccall. And he’s so ashamed to admit it, but he was tempted.
Kyle: Tucker and audra have a plan to stage a hostile takeover at jabot, but I don’t know the specifics and tucker has no interest in having any hands-on involvement running the company. He’s leaving that to audra.
Diane: And in turn, audra has offered you the position that jack wouldn’t give you.
Audra: If you knew this would happen, then it’s clearly what you wanted. But why?
Tucker: Jack, because he’s so predictable, is gonna use his son the way he tried to use his brother and send kyle right back into the belly of the beast. I’m the beast, of course. Only this time as a mole.
Victor: Hi.
Victoria: Hi.
Victor: What can I do for you?
Victoria: I just came by to thank you.
Victor: Thank me for what?
Victoria: For making it so obvious how little my feelings and my opinions mean to you.
Victor: What are you talking about?
Victoria: Daddy, you sent nicholas and adam by to basically emotionally strong-arm me into staying at newman. Really? I mean, in other words, you have zero respect for my instincts.
Victor: Oh, your instincts. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That’s right. Wait a minute, your instincts that led you to billy boy abbott, J.T. Hellstrom, ashland locke and now, nate hastings. Hell of an instinct.
Victoria: My personal life has nothing to do with this. It’s business. You’re always the one who says it’s not personal, it’s business, so please leave my exes out of this, please.
Victor: My dear girl–
Victoria: This is about you that’s the problem.
Victoria: My personal life has nothing to do with this. It’s business. You’re always the one who says it’s not personal, it’s business, so please leave my exes out of this, please.
Victor: My dear girl–
Victoria: This is about you and me and what I bring to the table.
Victor: The problem is that you bring your personal business into the office. That’s the problem.
Victoria: Well, I’m sorry then, daddy. I’m confused. Why do you even want me back here?
Victor: Two reasons. For your mother and for yourself.
[ Stairs creaking ]
[ Nikki panting ]
Nikki: Hello. Hello. Please. Please, someone help me. Oh, god. Damn it!
[ Nikki gasping ]
Nikki: What do you want?
Claire: Tell you and spoil the surprise? I wouldn’t dream of it. Not until everyone’s here.
Nikki: Who?
Claire: That family that you cherish so much. Although god knows why? They are as dysfunctional as any family I’ve ever seen. They think they’re so superior, so above it all. They hurt people over perceived threats. They– they discard people like trash who they think are of no use to them. You all are the worst kind of people. Vicious, sanctimonious. You disgust me.
Nikki: What are you talking about?
Claire: Did you really believe that the time would never come to even the score? I have been very patient. I have waited long enough. Time’s up. Hm. That’s it. Close your eyes. Sleep. You’ll have your answers very soon. You’re not gonna like them, but you deserve all the pain they’ll cause.
Nikki: Stay away from my family.
Claire: Sorry, nikki. You’re not calling the shots anymore.
Victor: You know damn well, it means everything to your mother to have you here and thrive.
Victoria: Well, it’s just a little hard to thrive when you’re constantly pushing me down.
Victor: What do you mean I’m constantly pushing you down? What the hell are you talking about? You have sat in this chair for how long? I’m pushing you down? Watch your tone.
Victoria: You know what? Mom might actually have more respect for me if I call you out on your constant and outrageous acceptance of adam. In spite of all of his underhanded and hurtful and egregious moves that he’s always making. You know what, daddy? I think mom would actually even maybe applaud me if I cleaned out my desk and I walked away. Tell me something. How does it benefit me? How do I thrive by sticking around here and watching you continue to make excuses for adam every time he tries to stick a knife in your back.
Victor: Let me ask you something. What would you have without this company? Without me? You have nothing.
Diane: I get it. I completely understand the temptation. I– I really do. But the important thing is you didn’t act on it. That’s what matters.
Kyle: But I considered it.
Diane: But clearly, you regret that and now you’ve done the right thing. I’m– I’m proud of you.
Kyle: Yeah, I don’t know if I deserve that. I definitely didn’t expect it.
Diane: What did you expect?
Kyle: I don’t know. I thought you’d probably use it as another opportunity to rip into audra again. Or at least remind me of what an idiot I was to get involved with her in the first place.
Diane: I think I’ve said enough about that. You don’t need to hear it again.
Kyle: Now, all I have to do is tell dad.
Diane: No. No, not yet.
Audra: Look, I can see your logic about jack trying to use kyle as a mole. It’s the kind of thing the abbotts think is clever. But what I don’t think you’re taking into account is that kyle has obviously lost his nerve, which proves he’s weak. You know, why would he be so willing to just throw himself back into that arena?
Tucker: Because he’s so desperate for his dad’s approval.
Audra: Okay. That’s fair. So, I assume the plan would be to use this to our advantage by pointing kyle in exactly the wrong direction.
Tucker: Yeah, that’s one way to go about it.
Jill: I have been knocking on your door upstairs for the last five minutes. I assumed you were avoiding me.
Tucker: Why in the world would I do that? You know that feeling of having to rewash dishesthat didn’t get clean? I don’T. Cascade platinum plus has me doing dishes… differently. Scrub? Soak? Nope. I just scrape, load and I’m done. Only platinum plus is bigger.
With double the dawn grease
fighting power
and double
the scrubbing power.
For a no rewash clean…
and a cabinet ready shine.
Kyle: Why shouldn’t I go ahead and confess to dad? Mom, I hate the idea of looking him in the eye and pretending that nothing is wrong.
Diane: Don’t do that to yourself. Instead, recognize this as an opportunity and turn it into something positive. You’re just going to need some more information.
Kyle: I– I have no idea what you’re talking about.
Diane: Well, let me spell it out for you. It’s time that you turn the tables on audra and take advantage of her for a change.
Kyle: Mom, why would I do that?
Diane: Why? So you can find out what she and tucker are really planning and then you can bring the details back to your father. You don’t have to tell him that you almost fell into their trap. You can even say that this has been your plan all along. Just think how proud he’ll be of you.
Kyle: That would be a lie.
Diane: No, it would be a slight manipulation of the order of events. And he would be proud and grateful.
Kyle: Mom, I just–
Diane: So grateful, in fact, that he will forget all of this billy nonsense and give you exactly what you want.
Jill: Sweetie, would you excuse us, please? I need to talk to this one by myself.
Tucker: Would you mind?
Audra: Not at all.
Tucker: And, uh, contact me when you hear from that friend we were discussing.
Audra: Yeah, of course. Nice seeing you, jill.
Tucker: Is it just me or has it been too long?
Jill: Oh, it’s just you. Listen, tucker, I don’t wanna play games here. Okay, I don’t want any dancing around the issues or any snappy comebacks because I don’t have the time or the patience for it.
Tucker: What about just a few seconds to reminisce?
Jill: I know that you were behind mamie’s decision to invest in chancellor-winters. And I also know that for years, you’ve resented the fact that I’m running the company that your mama–
Tucker: Now, let’s leave katherine out of this, shall we?
Jill: Fair enough. Okay. I just came here to tell you that you do not intimidate me. As a matter of fact, you don’t even worry me.
Tucker: Really? Jill, you wouldn’t be sitting here if that were true. You’re worried because you know I have a plan. And that scares you because my plans don’t often fail.
Jill: Well, I guess I’ll just have to check with ashley on that one.
Lily: No matter what happens between jill and tucker, I have to tell devon what we found out.
Daniel: Okay. Maybe you should at least wait until we find out what tucker is actually up to.
Lily: Well, I mean, even if it’s nothing, I have to tell hi
Lily: No matter what happens between jill and tucker, I have to tell devon what we found out.
Daniel: Okay. Maybe you should at least wait until we find out what tucker is actually up to.
Lily: Well, I mean, even if it’s nothing, I have to tell him what’s going on.
Daniel: You don’t think that maybe he’s already a little suspicious?
Lily: Well, no, I know he is. I know he already talked to tucker about a possible connection to mamie. But one of the caveats of us working together again was full transparency and I take that very seriously. And plus, I hate the turmoil that he’s in over his father.
Daniel: I just think it’s a little premature. I mean, what if you say something to him and it blows up that turmoil even more before we get a chance to confirm whether it’s true or not?
Lily: I mean, look, devon is a strong intelligent person. If I tell him that we have this information, but we’re still digging, he’ll understand that. I think he would appreciate that a lot more than being left in the dark.
Victoria: So, you think that my life is empty without you and newman? Really? I mean, that’s the daughter that you think you raised. Oh, my god. Have you ever had any respect for me, at all?
Victor: I did very much.
Victoria: Did? Past tense?
Victor: Without this company to focus on, I’m worried that you’ll spin out.
Victoria: Oh, I see. So, you really think that I am that frail and unbalanced. That if I chose not to tolerate adam and accept this subservient role that I have here at newman, that I am that weak and that I– I would fall apart. Really, dad?
Victor: I honestly don’t know what to think about you anymore, all right?
Nick: I had a feeling this is where you were headed. How bad has it gotten?
Victoria: Well, dad seems seems to think that I– I live a meaningless life and that I would just completely fall apart without his guidance. Maybe I will, dad. Maybe you’re right. Maybe that’s exactly what I’m gonna do. I’m just gonna fall apart.
Victor: Okay.
Victoria: Yeah, I’m just gonna completely lose control. Look out, world! Victoria newman is about to spin out.
Nick: Vic…
[ Nick sighing ]
Nikki: Who’s there?
Nick: Hi. Is, uh, sharon in? Okay. Could I get a green tea? Thank you.
Audra: Tucker.
Tucker: Uh, I’ll call you later. It’s all good.
[ Victor sighing ]
Nikki: Victor.
Victor: That’s my sweet baby. Sh, you have to keep quiet. You can’t alert anyone that I’m here, all right?
Nikki: No.
Victor: But I’m gonna get you out of here.
Nikki: Victor, I don’t know what’s going on. Why is claire doing this to me? What does she want?
Victor: Sweetheart, everything is gonna be all right. Right now, you’re going to have to hold very still, okay? It’s going to hurt when I pull it out, all right?
Nikki: Okay. All right.
Victor: So, you ready?
Nikki: Yeah.
Victor: Okay.

Adam: Got your message.
Victor: Thank you for meeting me on such short notice.
Adam: Well, it’s not like I have a whole lot else going on lately. So, what did you want to see me about?
Nick: You told him yet?
Adam: Told me what?
Victor: I thought you would bring your sister?
Nick: Yeah, I don’t think vic’s coming.
Victor: That’s disappointing.
Nick: I think she’s made her position very clear.
Adam: Okay, wait a minute. What is this? Is this an ambush? What position? What’s going on here?
Victor: I have some news regarding your future, adam.
Victoria: Hi.
Nate: Victoria.
Victoria: You’re, um, you’re a hard man to get a hold of these days.
Nate: I thought we agreed to spend some time apart.
Victoria: You said you needed some time to process what happened with my father. I just didn’t realize that meant total avoidance.
Nate: Victoria, what–
Victoria: So, I guess I can conclude that, uh, you decided that you no longer want anything to do with me.
Nate: I’m not sure what I’m–
Victoria: Nate, why don’t you just say it? Just– just– just be honest. Just tell me that it’s over.
Audra: Uh, kyle. What a surprise. I– I wasn’t expecting you.
Kyle: I sent you a text asking if we could meet, but you didn’t respond to it.
Audra: Uh, yeah. No, I’ve just been swamped here. You know, with nikki gone for a few days, it’s a marathon of work. But to be completely honest, I thought you wanted to meet about something personal, so I decided to make you wait.
Kyle: Yeah, um.
Audra: But now that you’re here…
Kyle: It’s not about personal stuff, audra. This is about business.
Audra: Oh, you look so serious.
Kyle: I’m having second thoughts about going after jabot.
Nate: I’m not avoiding you, victoria.
Victoria: Yeah? Well, I mean, it sure seemed that way. No response to any of my texts. Radio silence when I left you any voice messages.
Nate: I thought I made it clear that I need some time to figure things out. Not just us. That whole clown show with your father. That– that’s still pretty fresh.
Victoria: So, you couldn’t at least pick up a phone?
Nate: I honestly don’t know what I would have said to you.
Victoria: How about, “hi, how’s it going?” I mean, that would have been enough. I just needed to connect with you. And I– I just needed to know if there was still a chance.
Nate: I’m sorry.
Victoria: I understand that you’re trying to figure a lot of things out right now and I’m not trying to push, but, I mean, can we at least get a drink, you know? Have a conversation? We don’t have to come to any conclusions about us, but we can have a drink as– as friends. I mean, friendship is still on the table, isn’t it?
Nate: Of course, it is.
Victoria: So, anyway, a lot has happened to me since the last time I saw you.
Nate: What do you mean?
Victoria: Well, I mean, that I’m– I’m sort of in the same kind of limbo that you are right now.
Nate: You didn’t quit your job, did you?
Victoria: No, not yet.
Nate: Don’t do that on my account.
Victoria: Okay. It wouldn’t be just that. I know that my dad overreacted, but, you know, his concerns weren’t completely unwarranted, nate.
Nate: He turned on me, victoria. Because he thought I had turned on him. He chose not to accept my explanation and fired me. And you fomented it by choosing to back adam. It fed victor’s belief that I was trying to undermine him.
Victoria: I own that.
Nate: But I swear to you, I set things in motion at the clinic purely as a protective measure to ensure your father had a place secured and the time necessary for treatment.
Victoria: I know, but it was a very presumptuous move. You have to admit that. My dad saw it as a coup.
Nate: I am tired of trying to defend myself.
[ Nate sighing ] So, what are you gonna do now?
Victoria: I don’t know. I don’t know where I fit in right now. My life just feels like, uh, it’s suddenly this completely muddled, confused mess. And I don’t have anyone to talk to about it. My mother’s out of town. Nicholas would just give me advice that I wouldn’t want to follow probably, and forget– forget about my dad. I’m not gonna talk to him about anything. I guess what I’m saying is that I miss talking with you. And nate, I miss you. I miss your wisdom and your kindness and your compassion.
Nate: I miss you too. But I’m not sure I can be that person for you right now.
Victoria: I see.
Nate: I was counting on you to back me up and you weren’t there for me. That doesn’t just go away.
Victoria: I’m not just trying to sweep it under the rug. I understand that. I– I didn’t ever mean to hurt you, but can’t we just grab a drink? Have a conversation? I mean, is that really too much to ask?
Victor: I want you both to know that victoria has threatened to walk away from the company if I offered you a position of any power.
Adam: Okay. Well, then why are we wasting each other’s time?
Nick: Look, will you just stop talking and listen for once?
Adam: No. What for? So pops can put a fatherly hand on my shoulder?
Victor: Are you finished?
Adam: Apparently so. At least at newman enterprises. Unless I’m missing something here?
Victor: I told victoria if she insisted on demanding that, that she would no longer have a job at this company.
Adam: What is this? Is this another game? A contest? What hoops have you arranged for me to jump through this time, dad?
Victor: Listen carefully. The games are over and you have won. The stance you took when everyone else thought that that my mental capacities were in decline. I could no longer run this company. You came up with a plan to support both me and the company.
Adam: Yeah. But that was my intention, 100%.
Victor: And I appreciate it. And if victoria doesn’t see it that way, so be it. I run the show around here. If she disagrees with that, she can take a walk.
Adam: Wow. Uh…
Victor: Is that all you have to say?
Adam: You’re gonna have to forgive me if I’m a little surprised that you would overthrow the golden child for me. And I’m a little skeptical. I mean, what’s your angle here?
Victor: No angles, no games. I want this family to finally work together. It is all I’ve ever wanted. Ever wanted. You are as much a part of this family as both nicholas and victoria. That will never change. And if victoria doesn’t like it, she can take a walk and I won’t stop her.
Adam: Well, you’re being a little quiet.
Nick: Yeah.
Adam: Gearing up? Sharpening the metal knife? Well, go ahead, let me have it. Let’s hear your take on all of this. Tide is busting laundry’s biggest myth
Nick: I’m not happy about any of it. Starting with the fact that you faked some mental decline to try and trick your children into betraying you. It says an awful lot about your transparency and trust in us.
Victor: I’ve made my reasons for that clear to you.
Nick: Doesn’t mean I have to like it or agree with it. I also don’t like that victoria feels like she needs to step away from this company because you have weaseled your way back into another position of power that you do not deserve.
Adam: Okay. Well, according to you.
Nick: No. According to everything you’ve ever done since you walked into our lives. Now, I will do what I can. I will talk to vic. I will try and convince her to stay at newman. But when it comes to you? Clearly, this is on dad. And we’re gonna do whatever he wants because if it was up to me, you wouldn’t be in this office right now or the building.
Adam: You certainly don’t disappoint.
Victor: Nicholas, you may disagree with my methods, my decisions. I respect that. But I did all that for one purpose and one purpose only. To bring this family together so that all of us can work together as a team. Do you know how powerful we will be if we all work together?
Nick: I get it, dad. But do you expect us to just live happily ever after?
Victor: That’s up to the three of you.
Adam: Can I assume that nick will replace victoria if she walks? And I’ll assume that I’ll replace nate as coo?
Victor: Would that be all right with you?
Adam: Mm-hmm.
Victor: Nicholas, you disagree?
Nick: Ah, what does it matter, dad?
Victor: Son, I still want your input.
Nick: Here’s my input. Whatever happened to adam starting at the bottom and working his way up? I guess you didn’t mean that either, huh? What a surprise. Looks like I was right about that too.
Audra: What do you mean you’re having second thoughts about our plan? What’s happened?
Kyle: I don’t think I can betray my family just to get a position of power at jabot.
Audra: It’s a position you deserve. We have been over this, kyle. I thought you saw our plan as the best and only way to achieve that.
Kyle: Yeah. I no longer want to believe that. Look, I– I guess I will have to find some other way to get there, but not by betraying my family.
Audra: But you won’t get there, kyle. How much clearer can it be? You know, your father doesn’t trust you. Billy will always stand in your way. Because of that, you were gung ho about joining tucker and me. So what’s really changed?
Kyle: I– I guess I have. Look, I– I made that decision out of frustration and anger.
Audra: And don’t forget ambition.
Kyle: Yeah, I can’t deny that. But at the end of the day, I have to be able to live with myself and I just don’t think I can if I go down this road.
Audra: Look, kyle, I know this has been hard for you. I sympathize with that. I really do.
Kyle: You’re not gonna talk me out of my decision.
Audra: Look, it’s only natural you’d have some misgivings about going against your family, who, let’s be honest, has never exactly returned that loyalty. But I promise you, all of your doubts will vanish once we take control of jabot.
Kyle: No. They won’T.
Audra: Kyle, I know much more about these things than you do, but you’ll get there. You will find how intoxicating true power is.
Kyle: No, audra. Stop. Okay? You’re not listening to me. Yes, I deserve this job. But I want it given to me by my father the right way, not by ripping the company away from him and taking control.
Audra: You’re a fraud. You know, I never expected you’d end up afraid of going after what you want because daddy might disapprove. You know, tucker warned me. You know, I guess I just had more faith in you than you actually deserved.
[ Nikki sighing ]

Nikki: Claire. What– what’s going on? Where am I? My purse. My purse. Where’s my purse? My phone?
[ Nikki panting ]
[ Nikki grunting ] Please, somebody! Somebody help me! Please!
[ Knocking continues ]
Nate: So, here we are.
Victoria: Thank you. I appreciate that you could bring yourself to sit down and talk to me.
Nate: Victoria–
Victoria: No, really. I mean it. You’re not obligated to listen to me, especially given the circumstances, so thank you for doing it.
Nate: Okay. So, what’s been going on?
[ Victoria sighing ]
Victoria: Chaos as usual.
Nate: At newman?
Victoria: Adam is the man of the hour now because of the way that he handled the situation when we all thought that dad’s mind was deteriorating.
Nate: You backed him up.
Victoria: Clearly, that’s still a sore point with you.
Nate: It was the only point. It helped victor decide he couldn’t trust me, so I was out.
Victoria: No, dad made that decision when he learned that you already practically committed him.
Nate: See, that’s what I mean. You still believe it too.
Victoria: Look, if I could go back, I would realize that adam was just saying everything that dad wanted to hear and I was blindly and stupidly following along. I should have been asking myself, “what’s in it for him?” Because there’s always, always something in it for adam, no matter what he does.
Nate: So, you do regret it.
Victoria: Yes.
Nate: Okay. Well, thank you for that. So, was adam promoted? Did victor give him my job?
Victoria: I don’t know what his role will be, but dad wants to bring him back into the fold in a very high position. I threatened to walk out the door if he did that.
Nate: Seriously?
Victoria: Yeah. I basically told him either adam goes or I do.
Nate: Come on. That would be a very foolish move, victoria. You need to go back and convince victor you were wrong.
Adam: And if victoria stays on as your right hand, does that mean that nick is gonna replace nate?
Victor: That’s one possible scenario, yeah.
Adam: So, what’s left for me? Am I gonna be nick’s assistant so I can continue paying penance for all my sins?
Victor: We’ll find something for you. It will suit your particular proclivities.
Nick: What would that be? Con man in residence?
Adam: Dad, whatever it is, I accept.
Nick: I’m surprised you don’t think you deserve something more.
Victor: That’s enough, son.
Nick: Sure. Dad, it’s just, you know, you discount the kids who have stood by you and are loyal to you and you reward one who has clearly shown all he cares about is gaining more power, no matter how that happens.
Victor: Son, that’s enough. I’m sick and tired of all the bickering among you.
Adam: It has grown quite tedious, nicholas.
Victor: Okay? No more. I will assign a job to you that is of importance. Nicholas, you will take over nate hastings’s position. And you will both do your best to convince victoria to come back to the fold, all right?
Adam: Would that be okay for you, nick?
Nick: It doesn’t look like I have any choice.
Victor: You’re damn right you don’t have a choice. I call the shots, no one else. And if any of you don’t like it, you can all walk. I’ll replace all of you. Type 2 diabetes? Discover the ozempic tri-zone.
Victor: Glad you’re taking some time to relax. Love and miss you already.
[ Loud banging on door ]
Nikki: Claire! Can you hear me? What is going on? Why are you doing this?
Claire: Well, here it is. It’s nothing like the newman ranch but it’s home.
Nikki: After traveling, tea will just hit the spot. Oh, thank you. Hey, this tea is very different. What kind is it?
Claire: I couldn’t say.
Nikki: Well, you haven’t even touched yours. I– I really don’t feel well at all.
Claire: It’s okay. Soon everything will be as it should.
Nikki: What? What do you mean?
[ Groaning ] Oh. I don’t understand. What is happening? What? What is happening? But why? Why is this happening? It doesn’t matter why. Getting out of here is what matters. Oh, breaking the glass won’t work. It’s too far a drop. Maybe there’s a way out from there. Damn it. I can’t panic. I need to stay calm.
Kyle: Thank you, audra.
Audra: For what?
Kyle: For showing me who you really are. This wasn’t about building something for the two of us. You were just using me until you got what you want.
Audra: What we want. You know, welcome to real life, kyle. You know, this is how the world works outside of the abbott cocoon. You know, at least the world I live in. I thought you understood that.
Kyle: Yeah, so everything is transactional.
Audra: You’re damn right it is.
Kyle: I feel sorry for you.
Audra: Oh, just save it. Okay? You know what your problem is, you want to have it both ways. You want all the power and prestige and everything that comes along with it. But you don’t have the guts to fight for it. You know, daddy might get mad. You might not get invited over for christmas.
Kyle: Yeah. Well, at least I have people I care about and who care about me. Who do you have, audra? Hm? Tucker? You think he gives a damn about you? Do you think he would sacrifice anything for you?
Audra: At least he’s a man who’s not afraid of going after what he wants.
Kyle: You know, when I walked in here, I didn’t know what I wanted.
Audra: Don’t try to spin this on me. You’d already made up your mind.
Kyle: No. No, I didn’T. I was conflicted. I needed to talk to somebody who I thought was on my side. Who understood my position. But you were just stringing me along until you got what you wanted. And the second I showed any doubts or any human emotion, you turned on me.
Audra: I don’t have time for cowards. Deal with it.
Kyle: Fine. I will. I am seeing things very clearly now. Sorry for wasting your time, audra. And mine.
Victoria: You know what staying at newman would mean, don’t you?
Nate: I’ve got a pretty good idea.
Victoria: Adam wins, again.
Nate: Adam wins if you leave.
[ Victoria scoffs ]
Victoria: How does that work?
Nate: You’d be giving him all the power and relinquishing your own. Adam becomes victor’s shining light. And you become the disgruntled daughter who walked out the door because she couldn’t get what she wanted.
Victoria: But nate, you of all people know that it goes a lot deeper than that.
Nate: Doesn’t matter. That’s what victor will think. And there’s not a damn thing you can do about it because you’ll be gone. And where to, by the way?
Victoria: Where to, what?
Nate: Where would you go? What would you do?
Victoria: I’m sure there are a lot of companies that would be happy to know that I’m suddenly available.
Nate: Oh, I have no doubt. But would the situation be better than what you have now? Think about the bigger picture, victoria. Adam would still report to you. Right?
Victoria: Probably. Yes.
Nate: And how long do you honestly think victor is going to last as C.E.O.? A year? Maybe two? Eventually, the stress will catch up with him and he’ll want to retire again. And if you’re not there, who will he give it to? Not nick, who always has one foot out the door.
Victoria: He’ll give it to adam.
Nate: Which may be the long con adam’s been playing all along. And you’ll just have handed him the keys to the kingdom.
Victoria: I hear what you’re saying, nate. And it’s– it’s really good advice.
Nate: But?
[ Victoria sighs ]
Victoria: But the thought of working with adam again, day in and day out makes my stomach turn.
Nate: I didn’t say it would be easy.
Victoria: Try impossible. I know that adam is gonna try to undermine me and nick whenever and wherever he can. And dad is just gonna blame us for not making the effort to get along with him.
Nate: So you’ll have to stay one step ahead of him.
Victoria: [ Sighs ] I know. It’s just the thought of it is exhausting. I don’t know if I can go through that again.
Nate: Then we’re back to the question of… where do you go from there?
Victoria: I don’t know. I’m just gonna have to figure that part out. But thank you.
Nate: Thank you?
Victoria: Thank you, very much, for letting me bend your ear when the subject of me and my family is probably the last thing that you want to be talking about.
Nate: I do care about you, victoria. I want to see you happy and successful in everything you do.
Victoria: Oh, god. That sounds like a breakup line.
Nate it’s not a line, it’s how I feel. And whatever happens with us going forward isn’t going to change that. Feelings don’t just go away.
Victoria: Good and the bad. Right? So, what about you?
Nate: What about me?
Victoria: Well, I spent the last hour talking about myself. I wanna know what’s going on with you. What are your plans?
Nate: I’ve got something in the works.
Victoria: Oh?
Nate: It’s big, actually. Got a few details to iron out and some obstacles to overcome, but… in the end, it will all be worth it.
Victoria: Well, that sounds exciting. What is it? No, look, it’s okay. You– you don’t have to tell me about it.
Nate: No, no, it isn’t you. I guess I just don’t want to jinx it, you know, by saying anything until it happens.
Victoria: I had no idea you were superstitious.
Nate: Usually I’m not.
Victoria: Come on, you can tell me. Just give me a little hint, for old-time’s sake.
Nate: All I can say is… I’m going home. My advice to you is to do the same.
Audra: Hi. I’m sorry, I handled that poorly. I don’t want this to come between us. Please call me.
Nikki: Wait a minute. It could be a trick. She drugged me before. I can’t take the chance. Maybe there’s something that will help me pick the lock. This might work. Come on. Keep it together. You’re going to be all right. Victor knows where you are. So when he doesn’t hear from you… of course, she took my phone.
Claire: Nikki, are you awake? Nikki?
Nikki: Claire? Claire. Why are you doing this to me? What is happening? Claire! Claire! I have moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.
Nick: I see you and nate have made peace. It’s nice of you to give him the benefit of the doubt after what he tried to pull with dad.
Victoria: Not now, nick.
Nick: Just an observation.
Nate: Wow. You may think you know what my intentions were, nick. But the truth is, you have no idea.
Nick: Ah, nate. I know exactly what you were hoping to get out of all this.
Adam: And more importantly, so does our father.
Nate: I want you to think about my suggestion.
Victoria: I will.
Nate: Have a good night.
Victoria: Good night.
Adam: What suggestion was he referring to?
Victoria: That was a private conversation. It’s none of your business.
Adam: Whatever you say, victoria.
Victoria: What are the two of you doing here together anyway?
Adam: We’re looking for you, actually.
Nick: We came to talk.
Victoria: About what?
Nick: Our family.
Victor: Hello, my sweetheart. It’s your lonely husband calling, you know. You’ve only been gone a day and I miss you already. I want you to have a good time. I want you to relax and enjoy your time with that assistant of yours and her aunt. Okay? I’ll take care of things around here. I promise you. Okay? I miss you a lot, my baby. I really am lonely without you. Bye.
Nikki: Claire, answer me. What do you want? Why are you doing this?
Claire: There’s water on the nightstand and more in the drawer. There’s cans of food in the armoire with a can opener. I promise you it’s all safe.
Nikki: Why should I believe anything after what you’ve done to me? You’re not gonna get away with it. My sister is expecting me.
Claire: No, she isn’T. You made it very clear you were gonna surprise her.
Nikki: No. No.
Claire: I have to get back to genoa city and make all the other arrangements.
Nikki: What other arrangements? What are you going to do?
Claire: I’m leaving now, nikki. And don’t worry, you’ll be with the rest of your family soon. So there’s no real need to panic.
Nikki: You leave my family alone. Claire. Claire, can you hear me? You stay away from my family. Claire.

Young & The Restless Transcript

Transcript provided by Suzanne
Ashley: Good morning.
Jack: Morning.
Ashley: You sound serious. What’s wrong?
Diane: Uh, I think we should show her. Ah, she– she deserves to know.
Ashley: Show me what? Where’d this come from?
Jack: It’s an article written by a reporter friend of mine, detailing Tucker’s coverup of the actions of the PR department while he was still running McCall.
Ashley: What’re you going to do with it?
Jack: I’m preparing to give the go-ahead to have it published.
Diane: It would have a wide release immediately.
Ashley: It’s a pretty big move. Too big if you ask me.
Jack: I disagree. I’ve come over to Billy’s way of thinking. We have to lower the boom on Tucker before he takes action against us.
Adam: Oh, hey! Morning… boss. Oop, my bad. Slip of the tongue.
Nate: Hilarious.
Adam: Hmm. So how is unemployment treating you?
Nate: I take comfort in the fact that I don’t have to work with you any more. That is a signifigant silver lining.
Adam: Oh, yeah, your shirts. They’re still at the dry cleaners, so you’re going to have pick them up now that I’m not your assistant any more.
Nate: Point taken.
Adam: Hmm? Oh, no, I’m just getting started. I mean, I feel like there’s a giant weight that’s been lifted off my shoulders. I don’t know what to do with myself now that I’m not responsible for your– your emails and your schedule–
Nate: You’re annoying as hell, but I’ve got to hand it to you. You took a risk, made a play and ended up surviving.
Adam: You mean when I told my father not to trust you when you were gonna ship him off to treatment?
Nate: I had his best interest at heart.
Adam: Yeah. Keep telling yourself that.
Nate: Only I wasn’t thinking of myself. Whereas we both know you were plotting to use victor’s illness to advance your own agenda. Without question.
Adam: Well, I guess we’ll never know for sure.
Nate: You’re the same self-serving bastard you’ve always been.
Adam: Yeah and you’re the guy out in the cold. It’s chilly, isn’t it?
Nate: You know that feeling just as much as I do, if not more.
Adam: Nate, congrats. You played the game and you lost, okay? Bottom line is, I know my father better than you.
Nate: Obviously, not well enough to see through his ruse. Victor had us all completely convinced that he was losing his mind. He had everyone fooled, particularly you.
Victor: Sweetheart, are you still planning to take that trip?
Nikki: Yes. As long as you promise me to handle things with victoria.
Victor: I will take care of things, okay? But I think it’ll be good for you to get away.
Nikki: Yes, I do too. What you said about the family makes a lot of sense. I– I am so sick of all this infighting. Be good to get a bit of a break.
Victor: Sweetheart, it’s important for you to get away, okay? You really need to take a break. Besides that, how wonderful will it be to see your sister, casey? And by the way that aunt jordan, that aunt of claire’s will be happy to see you.
Nikki: Well, claire is such a terrific assistant. She has done so much for me in just a short amount of time, so I will do this for her. And I’m sure she’s gonna get a kick out of the newman jet.
Victor: And I promise that I will, you know, handle things with nicholas and victoria and adam.
Nikki: I won’t mind missing that.
Victor: Obviously, it’s a problem of my making. My responsibility to deal with it and I shall. Even if I have to force them to cooperate.
Claire: Yes, everything is set. We fly out later today. Yes, I understand. I know how important this is. Yes, of course. I’ll do whatever’s necessary.
Victor: I wanna thank you both for coming.
Nick: You called, dad. What’s up?
Victoria: Yeah. What is this about? More tricks and deceptions to see if you can try to test our loyalty?
Victor: I want to make clear to both of you where things stand in regard to the company after what happened with nate hastings.
Nick: You mean his firing?
Victoria: And the fact that you’re not actually losing your mental faculties.
Victor: I want you both to know that I have no intentions of vacating this chair. I will remain as the head of newman enterprises, okay? And I am hoping that both of you will agree to work alongside with me.
Nick: Normally, I wouldn’t be so quick to forgive you for your latest ruse, but it did prove to be effective in revealing what nate’s true intentions were.
Victor: It’s a tactic I had to use.
Nick: Okay. Well, I think it would be best if we attempt to put this behind us and move forward peacefully as a family.
Victor: I agree with you. How about you, victoria?
Victoria: It’s not gonna be so easy for me.
Victor: All right. Because of your feelings for nate hastings?
Victoria: It was difficult enough that you didn’t trust me and that you felt you couldn’t confide in me about your health, but you’re not being fair about nate, dad.
Victor: I had to uncover who the traitor was and it turned out to be nate hastings.
Victoria: I’ve spoken to nate, all right. You may not agree with his plan, but his motives are very sincere.
Victor: No, they’re not.
Nick: I didn’t trust him either, vic.
Victoria: Well, that’s not a big surprise. You’ve always had a problem with nate.
Nick: With good reason. He showed what he truly is at heart and that is an opportunist.
Victor: He made a power grab for you and for himself, at your father’s expense.
Victoria: He cares about your well-being, dad. He was looking out for you and the stability of this company.
Victor: That’s nonsense. Now, if you agreed with his plan, then why did you go along with adams?
Victoria: Because you’re my father. I didn’t want to see you sent away. It’s not fair to you. It’s not fair to any of us.
Victor: You still have feelings for nate hastings, don’t you?
Victoria: So once again, you’re questioning my judgment? You seem to have lost all faith in me, dad.
Adam: Look, I understand victor’s aim. He was trying to uncover bad intentions, which you clearly had.
Nate: When I believed your father was sick, I wanted him to receive the best care and attention possible. That’s why I pushed for the suggestion I made. You know, I wonder if things really paid off for you in all of this. Did victor offer you a promotion for convincing him of your– your goodwill?
Adam: The details are still in the works.
Nate: That sounds like an evasion.
Adam: No, I have proven myself to my father. First, as being your assistant, and now by protecting him from an enemy, and that is you.
Nate: And yet, victor hasn’t rewarded you. Which leads me to believe he doesn’t trust you any more than he now trusts me.
Adam: Nate, you and I, we’re not in the same boat.
Nate: Well, since I’m out as you so graciously put it, you can no longer be my assistant.
Adam: What a tragedy.
Nate: Which means that technically, you’re as much out of a job as I am. That’s interesting. With my fall, yours seems to have arrived as well.
Mamie: Gentlemen.
Nate: Hello, aunt mamie.
Mamie: Am I interrupting anything?
Adam: Nope. We are done here. Nice to see you, mamie. Enjoy your breakfast.
Mamie: That’s miss m to you. What was that all about?
Ashley: Were you planning on telling me about this? Or were you just going to share it with the world and then deal with the ramifications after?
Jack: Oh, as I recall, you have shared a number of things with the press without consulting me first. Like the fact that you and tucker were starting a new company together.
Ashley: That was in response to you giving diane here a major role in our family company without telling who? Oh, right, the entire family!
Jack: Ashley.
Diane: All right. All right. Just take a breath, please. I don’t think we should turn on each other right now.
Ashley: We?
Diane: Jack, I think we should listen to what ashley has to say. Her concerns are valid.
Ashley: Well, thank you, diane.
Jack: Careful.
Ashley: Look, all I’m saying, jack, if you share this with the world, if you have it published, it’s just gonna make tucker angrier than he already is. You said yourself that he knows you have incriminating information on him that’s keeping him at bay. On top of that, he’s got nothing to lose. He’s not even running mccall anymore.
Diane: And from what jack told me, uh, it sounds like tucker is not concerned what you think about him anymore either.
Ashley: Okay. Well, I’m not sure that’s true.
Jack: But you don’t have any proof that it isn’T.
Ashley: It’s a feeling, okay? Regardless, tucker doesn’t have anything going on for himself right now. He has nothing to show for himself. Do you really think a public smackdown’s gonna do that much damage?
Jack: It would do something to let him know we are not afraid of him.
Ashley: Mm-hmm. Well, you know, you are afraid and I’m pretty sure he knows that.
Jack: I hate that tucker thinks he has us all squirming here.
Ashley: Okay. If you have that published, it’s going to just tell him that you are squirming, jack. That you need to put tucker in his place and you’ll do anything to make it happen.
Jack: I’m not gonna just sit here and do nothing, ashley.
Ashley: Just give me some more time. I can handle this. Please, trust me.
Jack: I’m not convinced of that.
Ashley: I’m begging you. Give me just a little more time, all right? I’m convinced I can make some inroads with him.
Diane: You know, I think a little more time wouldn’t hurt.
Jack: Fine. You’re playing with fire. I don’t want to see you get burned.
Ashley: Okay. Thank you. And please don’t underestimate me. I am not ready to admit defeat. Goodbye.
Chloe: Oh, this is perfect.
Sally: Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much for meeting with me. I know I’m taking you away from work.
Chloe: Ah, it’s really not a problem. So, I want to hear all about business. How is interior design treating you? It seems like it’s going well.
Sally: Yeah, it– it is. Uh, daniel has been on board with my vision for his new apartment. And you were a huge help in selling it to him.
Chloe: Oh, please. I mean, that– that was nothing. I saw the beautiful picture you are painting and I mean, it was genius, per usual, and I was just able to translate it further.
Sally: Well, having you by my side and bouncing off ideas…
Chloe: Finishing each other’s thoughts.
Sally: I realized that there is a really important element missing from my business.
Chloe: Oh, really? What’s that?
Sally: You. I don’t want to do this without you.
Chloe: You mean it?
Sally: Yeah, your perspective is invaluable and your taste is impeccable. And I value your opinion about everything.
Chloe: Really? I mean, I’m– I’m kind of amazing, so thank you for noticing it.
Sally: Look, okay. I– I– I recognize that you are currently working somewhere else, but would you be willing to come back and work with me?
Chloe: Um, you know, I actually just had a conversation with summer and chelsea and I told them I didn’t think it was working out.
Sally: Wow. I– I knew that you said things were bad, but I didn’t realize how bad they’d gotten.
Chloe: Well, you know, summer and I, we do not see eye to eye when it comes to selling fashion, let alone designing it. And I just got the sense that things were not going to be any smoother or get any better over there.
Sally: Well, could summer’s loss be my gain?
Chloe: I mean, if that’s your actual offer then uh, yes. A 100 times, yes. Yes.
Sally: Yay.
Chloe: Yes. Yes.
Sally and chloe: Yay.
Chloe: Oh, my god. Sally? Is everything okay?
[ Sally sighing ]
Mamie: So, what was that tension with adam newman all about? With somebody who’s supposed to be your assistant, he seems a bit full of himself.
Nate: Things exploded at newman in a way I didn’t see coming, aunt mamie.
Mamie: Wanna talk about it?
Nate: I tried to do the smart thing. For victor, for his family and for the company.
Mamie: Oh, this sounds like it may be one of those no good deed goes unpunished scenarios.
Nate: I was the victim of a ruse. Accused of being a traitor, then cast aside. It reminded me how victor usually operates.
Mamie: Are you saying that victor fired you? He is ruthless. He takes down everything in his path.
Nate: I’ve been thinking about what you said about me not being a newman. How eventually that would catch up to me at newman enterprises.
Mamie: I won’t say I told you so and I take no pleasure in saying that I was right, in this case.
Nate: You were right about a lot of things, aunt mamie. The newmans will always protect their own, even at the expense of others. I want no part of that anymore.
Mamie: Well, I’m sorry that you’ve been put through the wringer. I can’t help but see the bright side.
Nate: Bright side? Well, you better tell me what that is because I have no clue.
Mamie: You’re a free agent. You can return to chancellor-winters where you belong.
Victor: Well, at least now you can take the necessary steps.
Victoria: And what is that?
Victor: Get rid of nate hastings. You don’t need him. He’s not good for you.
Victoria: So, I see that once again, you’re determined to control my personal life as well as my professional one.
Victor: Let me be very frank with you. Almost hurts me to say this. But your choice in men has always been most questionable to me. Billy boy abbott. J.T. Hellstrom. Ashland locke. Now, nate hastings?
Victoria: If my personal relationships are going to be a problem for you, then maybe we shouldn’t be discussing my role–
Victor: That’s nonsense. You belong with this company, with this family. Get rid of nate hastings and you’ll be able to focus on what is important. Son, are you with us?
Nick: Absolutely, dad. I’m back. I’m all in.
Victor: I’m glad to hear that. How about you? Health insuran
Diane: Look, I hope you’re not angry with me for letting ashley in on our plans to expose tucker.
Jack: No. No, I’m not angry at you. You’re right. We– we should tell her. Just I hate that she’s being so stubborn about this.
Diane: Well, maybe ashley’s right about tucker’s mindset. And jack, we haven’t had any luck disarming tucker. Maybe ashley’s our best bet.
Jack: I feel like I’m sending my sister back to the lion’s den. I don’t want her anywhere near this man.
Diane: Well, that’s her choice. And if ashley’s concerned about tucker’s reaction to us releasing the damning information, then maybe we should listen to her.
Jack: You really think so?
Diane: I know you’re surprised that I see her side in this, but ashley thinks she knows tucker better than anyone, so let’s just do things her way. Just give her some leeway to see what she can get out of tucker.
[ Jack groaning ] All right. Well, what else? What are you not saying? What’s bothering you?
Jack: There is another reason I want ashley to stay as far away from this man as possible.
Diane: Well, if you’re worried about tucker manipulating her, I don’t think you need to be. Ashley can take care of herself.
Jack: No, that’s not it. Ashley is not as in control of her feelings for tucker as she claims. I am worried that she will fall for him all over again.
Ashley: You’re hugging the life out of me.
Abby: I need proof. I need proof that you’re actually here. That you’re home. I haven’t seen you much since you’ve come back.
Ashley: Well, that’s not my fault. You’re the one who’s so busy getting everything ready for the holidays.
Abby: Well, I’m just relieved that you’re here. I’ve been really worried about you.
Ashley: You’re always worried about me. I’m fine. I promise. I’m so happy to be here with you.
Abby: Well, I am happy that you’re here through the holidays because I’m very excited about thanksgiving.
Ashley: Yeah, me too.
Abby: So, how are you really? I mean, how does it feel to be back? Have you had any uncomfortable encounters with tucker? I mean, hopefully, he’s so upset that he’s keeping his distance.
Ashley: I’m not gonna lie to you. I did reach out to him. Just so I could find out what he’s planning.
Abby: I don’t like that. I don’t like the sound of that at all. Mom, you need to stay away from tucker and all of his chaos. And god forbid you upset him even more.
Ashley: I don’t think that’s even possible.
Abby: Then, mom, just stay away from him. Look, maybe he has shifted his focus from the abbotts and jabot. Just let him go.
Ashley: What do you mean he’s shifted his focus?
Abby: Devon and lily seem to think that he is behind mamie’s return to town and her investment in chancellor-winters.
Ashley: What? Are you saying that tucker and mamie are working together?
Abby: I don’t know. I mean, they think that he has some sort of plan, they just don’t know what the plan is yet.
Ashley: Okay. That makes sense because when– when tucker and I were together, his dream was to get chancellor-winters for devon and then jabot for me.
Abby: Oh, a trio of love and family.
Ashley: Well, yeah, that’s pretty much what he wanted it to be actually. So, maybe it could be the same agenda, but with a different planned outcome.
Abby: But what would tucker have to gain from disrupting his son’s company?
Ashley: Well, he could still get chancellor-winters for devon. Find a way to oust jill and I know that mamie would love that. And maybe he could still try to get revenge on jabot. I don’t know.
Abby: Or maybe he’s just forgotten about his revenge against the abbotts and jabot and maybe he really does want to focus on his family.
Ashley: Mm. Wouldn’t that be nice? Nothing is ever that simple with tucker.
Victoria: I am still furious with you, dad. For the games that you played with all of us.
Victor: You have made that amply clear.
Victoria: I’m really not interested in arguing about this anymore. So, despite your actions and my frustration, I can’t turn my back on newman enterprises. I refuse to step aside. This company is strong and a large part of that is due to my input and to my leadership.
Nick: I absolutely agree with that.
Victor: So do I.
Victoria: I’m not gonna watch all my hard fought efforts go to waste.
Victor: I’m glad you’ve come around.
Victoria: Dad, you have to know that this doesn’t make everything all right between us. You have to understand that you’re gonna have to work very hard to earn my trust back.
Victor: And that, my darling, goes both ways, okay? Remember that. Now, happy to realize that you’re savvy enough to know that this is where you belong.
Victoria: I do. But there is one caveat to my decision. If adam is given a power role in this company again, you can count me out.
Nikki: Oh, good, you’re here. Are you ready?
Claire: Packed and set.
Nikki: Oh, have you talked to your aunt? How’s she getting along with that broken arm?
Claire: Ah, it’s difficult. She doesn’t like anything to slow her down.
Nikki: Well, no, I can’t blame her, but I am looking forward to meeting the woman who raised such an amazing person.
Claire: Aunt jordan is gonna be so grateful.
Nikki: Now, you are gonna have to arrange for your own flight back to genoa city because once I leave blue lake, I’m going straight to napa to see my sister.
Claire: Of course, that won’t be a problem.
Nikki: Well, we will leave as soon as I finish up a few things here. And I want to change out of my work clothes. We’re not going on a business trip, so why not travel in comfort?
Claire: Thank you again, nikki. My aunt is just gonna be so thrilled.
Nikki: I’m so glad. I have a few phone calls to make. Um, please finish up whatever you’re working on and then we’re off.
Claire: Sounds good. Thank you again.
Nikki: Uh-huh. (Vo) red lobster’s new lobster & shrimp celebration
Nick: I’m with vic. I don’t think adam should be given any kind of leadership role.
Victor: Listen carefully. I’m going to say to you what I told adam. He will remain at newman enterprises and he will be given an important position.
Victoria: Even though he doesn’t deserve it?
Victor: I am sick and tired of the animosity between the three of you. You are siblings for god’s sake.
Nick: Adam has never shown any brotherly loyalty, ever.
Victor: Son, this is not up for debate. I’m fed up with the conflict between the three of you. I will do everything in my power to solve it. Count on it.
Chloe: What was that?
Sally: What was what?
Chloe: That look between you and adam? I saw that exchange and then I saw you go all dazed and confused.
Sally: No, I didn’T.
Chloe: Yes, you did. It was like you got all flustered, but not in a bad way. I saw that look and it wasn’t even anger, it wasn’t even friction. In fact, I even think I saw him smile.
Sally: Okay. It’s not that big of a deal. It was just a glance.
Chloe: No, it wasn’T. It was a deep, loaded look with a lot of emotion and history. Oh, no, no, no. Please tell me that things aren’t starting up again between you and adam?
Sally: No, absolutely not.
Chloe: Are you sure?
Sally: Chloe, please.
Chloe: I hope you mean it, that it’s not because you know, that would be a very bad idea, right?
Sally: Yes, I know. You do not like adam. You have made that very clear.
Chloe: You’ve just separated from nick. Your emotions are raw. You are likely overwhelmed and confused.
Sally: All true.
Chloe: It’s adam. Adam equals bad.
Sally: Yeah, look. Seriously, it’s– it’s not that big of a deal, okay? I– I just spaced for a second. It’s just, really, it’s nothing to worry about.
Chloe: Okay.
Sally: Okay. So, let’s talk about more important things like when are you coming back to work with me?
Chloe: Okay, I– you know what? I just need to go finalize my departure with marchetti. Um, so maybe when we’re done here, I’ll head over and get everything sorted.
Sally: Great. Then we will work out a deal for you with sally spectra designs.
Chloe: I can’t wait. Things are finally looking up.
Sally: I could not agree more.
Nate: My return to chancellor-winters is nowhere near guaranteed. But I did have a promising encounter with devon yesterday.
Nate: My return to chancellor-winters is nowhere near guaranteed. But I did have a promising encounter with devon yesterday.
Mamie: Oh, I’m so happy to hear that.
Nate: Devon appears poised to give me another chance.
Mamie: Then, we should seize the moment.
Nate: Okay. Well, go ahead because I’m sure you have an idea of how to do that.
Mamie: Well, I think our next step is that the four of us should sit down together as a family. You, me, lily, and devon. And then, we can discuss the possibility of your returning to chancellor-winters.
Nate: That may be tricky. Lily and devon are sharp. They’re gonna wonder why I’m leaving newman. Ask a lot of questions.
Mamie: Well, then you’ll just attest that you did the right thing and got bamboozled by victor. And nobody who knows him is gonna be surprised by that.
Nate: Still, I’m not sure they will accept my explanation.
Mamie: Don’t sell yourself short. This is our chance. Oh, I’m feeling really good about this.
Ashley: I have to admit that tucker does have a more valid interest in chancellor-winters. More than jabot.
Abby: Because of katherine?
Ashley: Yeah. I mean, he’s her son. And I can’t tell you how many times he said he never understood why jill had control of that company.
Abby: Well, katherine had to have her reasons for not leaving the company to tucker. And then for leaving dad in charge.
Ashley: Then, jill got her grubby little hands on it.
Abby: I didn’t realize you disliked jill so much.
Ashley: Yes, you did. She’s jill. You know how annoying she is. Of course, she’s billy’s mother, so I tried, but I never really appreciated her relationship with your grandfather.
Abby: Mom, I’m not trying to disregard your feelings, but just because you don’t like jill doesn’t mean she should have her company taken from her.
Ashley: Maybe it never should have been her company.
Abby: Mom.
Ashley: I’m just saying if tucker isn’t focused on getting chancellor-winters, then maybe he should be. It makes more sense than jabot.
Abby: Whoa. I do not like the sound of that, because that route leads to devon and whatever move he makes, that could really affect devon.
Ashley: No, listen, tucker would never do anything to hurt him.
Abby: This whole thing with mamie, I mean, it already is hurting devon. I mean, he’s very upset by all of this and he really doesn’t trust anyone’s motives.
Ashley: Yeah. Maybe nothing will happen. Maybe tucker will just focus on chancellor-winters and it’ll keep jabot out of his sights.
Abby: Or maybe his plan is already in motion. And mamie coming back to town and her investment in the company is all a part of that plan.
Ashley: You know what? I still can’t believe this about mamie. I can’t believe she’s doing this. Not unless she has another agenda of her own.
Abby: Even if tucker has his sights set on chancellor-winters, I’m starting to think that maybe he still wants revenge on you and the abbotts.
Ashley: You’re worrying about me again, aren’t you?
Abby: I just think you need to stay as far away from tucker as possible. I’m worried that you’re getting in deep with this guy again and it terrifies me.
Ashley: Okay. Stop, stop, stop. I promise you, I will never not be in control with tucker again. Inez, let me ask you, you’re using head and shoulders, right? Only when I see flakes. Then I switch back to my regular shampoo. You should use it every wash, otherwise the flakes will come back. Tiny troy: He’s right, you know. Is that tiny troy? The ingredients in head and shoulders keep the microbes that cause flakes at bay. Microbes, really? They’re always on your scalp… little rascals… but good news, there’s no itchiness, dryness or flakes down here! I love tiny troy. And his tiny gorgeous hair. He’s the best. – Make every wash count!

Claire: Well, here it is. It’s nothing like the newman ranch, but it’s home.
Nikki: Oh, my gosh. I think it’s just charming.
Claire: I thought you would.
Nikki: Huh. So, um, where is your great aunt?
Claire: I’d say she’s probably out sitting in her chair by the water.
Nikki: Ah.
Claire: Oh, wait. It’s from aunt jordan. “At the doctor’S. Tina next door, gave me a ride. Will be home soon. Enjoy a spot of tea while you wait.”
Nikki: Oh, sweet.
Claire: That is aunt jordan for you. She loves her tea.
Nikki: As do I. After traveling, tea will just hit the spot.
Claire: Please sit down. Let me get you some.
Nikki: Thank you. Oh, thank you.
Claire: I doubt my great-aunt will be very long.
Nikki: Well, it’s nice that she has neighbors to help her out.
Claire: Especially after her fall. She scares me to death sometimes, but she’ll never leave this place. It means too much to her.
Nikki: Well, I can see why. It’s a beautiful drive out here. All the open spaces and the scenery.
Claire: Yeah. It was a great place to grow up. Plenty of space to roam as long as I had my bear bell.
Nikki: Mm. Very important.
Claire: Yes. And, uh, plenty of friends from the houses nearby to run around with. And with the lake just outside, there’s always tons of stuff to do.
Nikki: Hm. Now, what kind of lake activities did you do?
Claire: Everything. Fishing, paddle boarding, swimming, kayaking. My aunt had to practically drag me away every night.
Nikki: I can imagine. You sounded, uh, pretty adventurous back in those days. So, tell me, did you ever get in any trouble out there?
Claire: I’ll never tell.
Nikki: Oh, good answer.
[ Both chuckling ]
Claire: Growing up here, uh, the neighborhood had its own version of a block party. Every house would have food and some sort of game to play.
Nikki: Oh, wow. That sounds like fun.
Claire: It was. One year, I was really into trying things in the kitchen at the time and I decided to make a dish, experimenting with chili pepper and hot sauce.
Nikki: Uh-oh.
Claire: It was terrible.
Nikki: I can only imagine.
Claire: I was single-handedly responsible for burning the mouths of each and every neighbor.
Nikki: Oh, my goodness.
Claire: Yeah. And for years, no one would even glance at anything else I made.
Nikki: Well, no, they were smart.
Claire: They were terrified.
Nikki: So, um, what did your aunt think about that?
Claire: She was not pleased. She instructed me to immediately hang up my apron and throw out all my spices.
[ Nikki laughing ]
Nikki: Oh, my goodness. Hey, this tea is very different. What kind is it?
Claire: I couldn’t say.
Nikki: Oh, you haven’t even touched yours?
Claire: Little secret. Not much of a tea drinker.
Nikki: Oh.
Claire: It is more aunt jordan’s thing.
Nikki: Ah. A woman after my own heart.
Claire: For sure.
Nikki: Oh, my.
Claire: What is it?
Nikki: I don’t know. I– I guess maybe the flight made me lightheaded.
Claire: Really? It was such a short trip.
Nikki: I– I– I really don’t feel well all of a sudden.
Claire: Would you like a water bottle?
Nikki: Yes. Yes. Water, please. Mm. Oh, my god. I– I am so sorry.
Claire: Don’t be.
Nikki: Oh. Uh, is something wrong?
Claire: Not at all.
Nikki: I– I– I really don’t feel well at all.
Claire: It’s okay. Soon, everything will be as it should.
Nikki: What? What– what do you mean? Mm. Oh! I don’t understand. What is happening? What? What is happening?

Sharon: Hi, elena. How’s chance? That’s good news. Oh, thank you so much for the update. Yes, I plan on coming to see him tomorrow morning. Okay. Well, maybe I’ll see you then. Thank you again so much, elena. I know that chance is in good hands. Night.
Nick: Sharon.
Sharon: Oh, hi, nick.
Nick: What’s up? What’s going on with chance?
Sharon: Chance was shot tonight working a case.
Nick: How bad is it?
Sharon: He’s going to be all right. No vital organs or anything like that. The bullet went right through.
Nick: Thank god. I mean, it’s still terrible.
Sharon: Yeah. He was just made chief. This promotion was supposed to keep him out of the line of fire. So much for spending more time behind a desk and spending less time out in the field with criminals. This was supposed to keep him safe. Anyway, that was elena. She said that chance is awake and that he’s stable. It was so scary getting that call, nick.
Nick: I can imagine.
Sharon: I’m surprised this wasn’t on the news.
Nick: You know, it may have been. I– I haven’t been listening or watching. I’ve been dealing with some family stuff.
Sharon oh, so you haven’t talked to summer then?
Nick: Summer? Uh, no. Why?
Sharon: Well, she was at the hospital.
Nick: Okay. Uh, yeah, I know, um, she and chance have been getting friendlier. Um, I’m surprised she went to the hospital though. It must have been very concerning and scary.
Sharon: Of course. So, what’s going on with your family?
Nick: Dad finally admitted to everyone what I had already figured out. That his confusion or whatever it is you want to call it was just an act.
Sharon: So he was looking for a traitor?
Nick: He definitely found one.
Sharon: And who walked into the trap? Or do I already know?
Nikki: Oh, victoria, what is it?
Victoria: Are you serious?
Nikki: What I am is exhausted.
Victoria: Oh, yeah. I– I can imagine how draining it must have been keeping such an ugly secret from all of us.
Nikki: Okay. You know, it’s late. I want to send claire home. I want to convince your father to do the same.
Victoria: Yeah. I’ll bet– I’ll bet that dad has a lot to celebrate. I bet he’s feeling really on top of his game right now after deceiving all of us. Of course not you. No, not you.
Nikki: I know you are upset. We have to talk about this tomorrow.
Victoria: Why? What will it matter? What will it change? Dad exploited our concerns and our fears for what? A trap? That he suspected that one of us would fall into? I mean, does he have that little of faith in me? And you, you just let him do it.
Nikki: Let me tell you this. It’s not like your father consulted with me before beginning this charade. And then when he finally did tell me, I let him know how much I disagreed with it.
Victoria: Oh, okay. And yet– and yet you said nothing. You did nothing. Mom, how could you do that? How could you let dad trick us like that? Look, I know you don’t trust adam. I get it. And I know– I know you don’t trust nate.
Nikki: Well, I can’t believe you still do after what we just heard.
Victoria: I’ve accepted his explanation.
Nikki: He practically had your father already put away.
Victoria: Okay, mom. I am not gonna get into defending nate with you. I’m not gonna do it. This is about what you did to me. Did you really think that not telling me was a good idea?
Nikki: I didn’T.
Victoria: But you went along with dad anyway. I was worried sick about what seemed to be happening to dad!
Nikki: Your father insisted that you not know the truth until it was the right time. And he wanted to be the one to tell you.
Victoria: Okay. Oh, yeah, yeah. And you always do what dad tells you to do. I know that’s not true, mom. I couldn’t sleep at night. I was worried about him. I thought I was going to lose my father. How could you do that to me?
[ Adam sighing ]
Victor: Yes, son?
Adam: You never gave me an answer before.
Victor: And answer to what?
Adam: Nate’s out. You want nick to come back and work for newman enterprises, so where does that leave me?
Victor: You know, quite frankly, I haven’t decided yet.
Adam: I see. Any timetable on when you will?
Victor: Um, son, I gotta be honest with you. I suspected it would be you who would take advantage of my mental decline.
Adam: You mean your pretend mental decline? Because I’m just that predictable?
Victor: Well, I’m not gonna argue that point, but having said that, I’m very happy that you did not betray me.
Adam: I am happy too, pop.
Victor: In fact, son, you protected me. I appreciate that.
Adam: Well, I’m grateful that you recognize that.
Victor: Yep.
Adam: Now, since you have been straight with me and I appreciate that, I’m gonna be straight with you too.
Victor: You know that I appreciate people being honest with me.
Adam: Well, you’re gonna get it. Brutal honesty.
Victor: Oh, yeah? Then bring it on.
Adam: You know, I told you that I wanted to start at newman from the bottom and I wanted to work my way up.
Victor: You did. Uh-huh.
Adam: It was all a lie. From the very beginning, okay? I was angry and I was hurt. You dismissed me from the joint venture with nick and sharon and that hurts. That hurt a lot.
Victor: So, you wanted revenge?
Adam: Yes.
Victor: Ah.
Adam: I thought that I would talk my way back into newman enterprises and I would show you how contrite I was. I would start at any low-level job and I would talk my way back into the family company. And once I was in there, I was going to find any way to tear it apart.
Victor: So, now you know why I set a trap, right?
Adam: So, you knew?
Victor: Let’s say I had my suspicions.
Adam: Well, then I wasn’t as successful as I thought. I wanted to lull you into believing that my intentions were real. And then when the opportunity presented itself, to strike you or victoria, I would be in the perfect position to do that.
Victor: Mm-hmm. Right.
Adam: You know, we had those conversations about what you wanted for me, what you hoped that I would become.
Victor: All of that is true.
Adam: I know. And then I started to think about how I’d hurt you over the years and how many times that I’ve let you down. I mean, how many times have we done this, you and I? A truce? And then something almost like a father and son.
Victor: Almost.
Adam: Yeah. Because I wanted to be a member of this family. I wanted to truly fit in. To be a part of this company. This– this amazing entity that you have built. But I fought it. And instead, I held on to anger and that hurt and that rage. Until you started exhibiting some extremely disturbing behavior. And it all changed.
Nikki: Victoria, I deeply regret keeping your father’s secret. I didn’t want to, but he was adamant. You know how he gets when he digs his heels in.
Victoria: You didn’t have to listen to him.
Nikki: Oh, my god. How many times do I have to tell you I didn’t want to go along with this? But he convinced me that if you knew the truth, you would tell nate everything.
Victoria: Oh, so it was all about nate?
Nikki: And in some way, I understood his logic. That’s the only reason I kept it from you.
Victoria: Because you despise nate.
Nikki: I do not despise him. I don’t trust him. I never have. And now, you see why? So, I hope your eyes have been opened. You understand that you can never trust nate, right?
Nick: It wasn’t adam. Though that makes sense. I thought if anyone was going to betray my dad, it would be my brother.
Sharon: Well, who then?
Nick: Nate’s the traitor.
Sharon: Nate? Really? He’s a doctor. He wouldn’t think of using victor’s mental decline against him?
Nick: He’s not a doctor anymore, sharon. He is a businessman and he has learned to be very, very ruthless.
Sharon: I can’t believe this.
Nick: I can. I’ve been saying it from the beginning, that he couldn’t be trusted. He staged a coup in his own family’s company. Why in the hell would anyone think that he wouldn’t try the same thing at newman?
Sharon: Why indeed? What was he after?
Nick: To get my dad out of the way so vic could be back in charge and then nate could be her second in command.
Sharon: Get victor out of the way how?
Nick: Ship him off to some clinic so they could test him to find out what was wrong with him. And I’m sure nate could have convinced the doctors to stretch out the treatment and diagnosis.
Sharon: Well, maybe nate thought that was the best course of action, given what he believed was wrong.
Nick: It’s the best course of action for nate. Dad could have been treated and diagnosed at home.
Sharon: This is just so outrageous.
Nick: Yeah, it is. But thank god, dad finally fired nate.
Sharon: Hm. Well, it sounds like things are really a mess over at newman. Maybe even more so than before.
Nick: Yeah, you could say that.
Sharon: So, what’s victor’s plan to clean it up? What happens next?
Nick: I need to talk to you about that. I’m not just accomplished. I am accomplishing. So I’m doing all I can to help lower my risk of breaking a bone.

Nick: Now that nate’s out, my dad wants me to return to newman.
Sharon: Well, that’s to be expected. He wants you in that executive suite. He always has.
Nick: Yeah.
Sharon: Are you considering it?
Nick: I mean, right now, vic is not in the state of mind to make any objective or rational decisions.
Sharon: That’s understandable.
Nick: And while adam did the unexpected thing and did not betray our father, you think that was a deliberate choice or did he just get lucky?
Sharon: I guess I believe, despite everything, that adam has always loved her father.
Nick: Yeah, maybe. Right now, dad thinks he can trust adam, but I know for a fact, adam’s gonna do something to try and turn this into his advantage.
Sharon: So, what are you really trying to tell me, nick?
Nick: Just my dad doesn’t seem to have any allies right now, except for my mom.
Sharon: So, you’re considering a return to newman enterprises, aren’t you?
Victoria: I don’t want to talk about nate anymore.
Nikki: Honey, you are going to have to face it. Nate came to this company after betraying his own family.
Victoria: I know and dad trusted him, even after he knew what nate did to devon and lily. So, what has changed? Why is dad always, without question, always right?
Nikki: Because nate had an agenda.
Victoria: Everyone we know has an agenda, mom.
Nikki: Well, honey, you’re not involved with everyone, you’re involved with nate. So, where do things stand now?
Claire: I’m so sorry to interrupt, nikki. I just– I got a call and it’s kind of an emergency.
Victoria: I’ll leave you two to whatever it is.
Nikki: Victoria, please don’t do anything rash.
Victoria: I don’t know what I’m gonna do.
Claire: I’m so sorry. It sounded like you were in the middle of something important.
Nikki: No, no, no, it’ll work itself out. So, what has you so upset? Who called? What’s the emergency?
Victor: So everything changed you say. In what way?
Adam: When I– when I thought that you were losing your grasp on reality, my plan to destroy everything newman went out the window. Okay? None of it mattered. Couldn’t even think about it. The only thing that I could think about was trying to protect you. And hopefully, helping you get better. You know, I haven’t– I haven’t had the time with you that nicholas and victoria have had. So, I– I wasn’t ready to lose you. Even if the rest of our days were destined to butt heads and fight.
Victor: So, are you upset now that I set a trap for everyone?
Adam: I should be. I bet victoria is. But no, I actually think it was a masterful move.
Victor: Hm.
Adam: And it was warranted.
Victor: Yeah.
Adam: I mean, let’s be honest. Uh, I think nikki’s in the clear, probably nick. But me, victoria, and nate, we all had reasons to exploit your illness for personal gain.
Victor: Explain that.
Adam: Well, you know how victoria feels about you stepping back in as ceo, demoting her. And she’s your daughter, she’s ruthless. She’s ambitious. She’s willing to go to any lengths to get what she wants, just like you. Even if you won’t to accept that kind of behavior from anybody else. And nate, I don’t need to explain to you what his agenda is or reasons. You just outed him.
Victor: Yep. Indeed.
Adam: I mean, how ambitious can that guy be? You just cut off his path the top. He envisioned himself being king to my sister’s queen. If he could just get her to sit in that big chair, he would ascend right along with her.
Victor: You think like your father.
Adam: But I understand why you don’t find me trustworthy. So, now that we’ve been honest with each other, let me get back to my original question. What happens to me now? My mom’s alzheimer’s never
Victor: So tell me, do you think it’s still a good idea for you to work your way up from the bottom at newman?
Adam: No, it was– it was bogus, remember? I don’t think that I need to do that.
Victor: And why not?
Adam: I’ve had several executive positions here. Hell, I’ve run this company. I– I don’t think there’s anything that I could learn from assisting somebody who has a fraction of the business experience that I do, okay? It was a very clever ruse. And if I hadn’t thought you were sick, I might still be playing it out.
Victor: Really?
Adam: Look, the point is I’m not playing it out. And I was the one with a smart solution to your problem. So, the way that I see it, I think at the very least, I deserve nate’s position.
Victor: Really.
Adam: Mm-hmm.
Victor: Problem is if victoria remains number two, then if you took over nate’s position, that would cause a lot of friction. And I don’t want that around me.
Adam: So, what are you saying?
Victor: You and victoria need to work out your differences.
Adam: Well, that’s– that’s– that’s easy enough. What about nick?
Victor: Well, I need to know where nicholas stands. But none of this is either or.
Adam: So, I– I’m always gonna be third in line to the throne?
Victor: What do you think?
Adam: Oh man, does it– does it really matter what I think? Nicholas and victoria will always outrank me, no matter how many times I prove myself to you.
Sharon: You are, aren’t you? You’re considering going back to newman enterprises? Of course, you are. You always look out for your family. You’re always ready to step in as savior at a moment’s notice.
Nick: I’m also very quick to call them out.
Sharon: I know.
Nick: Yes, I’m fast to protect my family, but sharon, I really feel like that is my job.
Sharon: Hey, it wasn’t a criticism. I’ve known you a long time. This is a part of who you are. You always look out for the people you love.
Nick: And they need looking after. And protecting them from themselves, it is a full-time job.
Sharon: I know it is. Sometimes, there’s no room for anything else.
Nick: Well, I haven’t decided, you know, what I’m gonna do yet, but I wanted to talk about it with you.
Sharon: With me?
Nick: Yeah, I made a commitment to you, sharon. I don’t want to leave you in the lurch.
Sharon: Well, kirsten or whatever we end up calling it is about ready for its relaunch. There’s a lot of cohesiveness in the structure, a solid foundation for moving forward. I’m– I’m good.
Nick: I know you are. You’ve taken this monster’s company, you’ve whipped it in the shape. There’s no chance it doesn’t become a huge success.
Sharon: You were a big part of getting kirsten where it is today. And I’ve really loved working with you. And I would like to keep going as partners, but if I had to do it on my own, I can.
Nick: I know you can.
Sharon: You know what? You need to do what’s best for you and your family. Really. And I’m still gonna come to you as a sounding board or get some advice. Either way.
Nick: Well, you better. I just want you to know, I really appreciate your support. It means the world to me.
Sharon: Of course.
[ Nick sighing ]
Nick: God help me. I really feel that newman and my father, they need me right now.
Sharon: Then do what you have to do.
Nikki: Here we are.
Claire: Thank you. My aunt fell at her lake house and broke her arm.
Nikki: Oh, no, I’m so sorry to hear that. Uh, does she live alone?
Claire: She does. There’s a housekeeper who comes once a week, but nobody living there full time to look out for her.
Nikki: Well, that’s no good. Listen, you need to go take care of her.
Claire: Just for a few days. I’ll check on her, make sure she’s getting along okay.
Nikki: Of course, I understand. Take all the time you need.
Claire: That’s so generous of you nikki. Thanks. And of course, I’ll be available by phone and text, and email if you need anything.
Nikki: Now, you just focus on taking care of your aunt. I know how important she is to you.
Claire: She’s everything to me. And, uh, well… you need to go take care of her.
And, uh, well…
Nikki: What? What is it?
Claire: There’s something else I should probably tell you about her.
Claire: I’m not sure how you’ll react and it’s a little embarrassing. Aunt jordan is your biggest fan.
Nikki: What?
Claire: Ever since I came to work here and told her about you, she cannot stop talking about how amazing you are. All the things that you’ve accomplished. How impressive it is. It’s actually, it’s kind of adorable, really.
Nikki: Well, you weren’t kidding about it being embarrassing for me.
Claire: Take the compliment. You’ve done a lot of great things in business and philanthropy. Aunt jordan has no doubt that having you as a boss is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.
Nikki: Well, that’s very flattering.
Claire: She was actually coming here, coming to visit me this weekend. Hoping to meet you. Thank you for hiring me.
Nikki: Well, I hardly need a thank you for a smart hire.
Claire: I tried to tell her that, but she’s determined. But now, of course, with a broken arm.
Nikki: Well, another time. I’m not gonna be here this weekend anyway.
Claire: I don’t remember anything on your calendar.
Nikki: No, it’s not on my calendar. I’m going to visit my sister, casey. We haven’t seen each other in ages and she’s gonna be in napa in northern california on a conference, so I was gonna surprise her.
Claire: That’s so sweet. I’m sure your sister will be thrilled by the surprise.
Nikki: In fact. Well, here– here’s an idea. Oregon is right on the way. I mean, it’s practically a neighbor. Why don’t I give you a ride on the newman jet?
Claire: I couldn’t ask you to do that.
Nikki: Well, you’re not asking, I’m offering and I hope you accept. In fact, I won’t take no for an answer.
Claire: Uh, that is so nice. Thank you. I know this is terrible, especially after that wonderfully generous gesture, but I’m afraid I have another favor to ask.
Adam: Nick.
Nick: Adam. What are you? The welcoming committee or dad’s receptionist? Is that a step up from assistant?
Adam: You know that was quite a summit earlier. A lot of twists, a lot of turns.
Nick: And surprisingly, you weren’t the traitor that was outed by dad.
Adam: Well, I doubt you’re unhappy that nate is out of the company.
Nick: No, not at all. Never trusted the guy.
Adam: Well, I’m not naive enough to think that you trust me anymore now. Even though dad is impressed with my loyalty.
Nick: Adam, I’m actually relieved you didn’t try and use dad’s illness against him like nate clearly intended to. But, you could have. Everyone expected it, including dad. That says a lot about who you are and how you deal with things.
Adam: So, even if I defied expectations, it doesn’t matter. Is– is that what you’re saying?
Nick: Your behavior seems decent right now. But that can change. We both know that. On a dime. So, yeah, my guard is up when it comes to you. And it probably always will be. Hi. I use febreze fade defy plug. And I use this. Febreze has a microchip to control scent release so it smells first-day fresh for 50 days.
Victoria: Hi. Um, may I have a cabernet, please? Thank you. I want to find a way to make things up to you. And I will.
Nate: I know you mean that now.
Victoria: No, nate, I’m not just saying it to smooth things over. I really do mean it. I want to fight for us.
Nate: So, what happens when another issue comes up that puts me at odds with your family? Your parents don’t trust me. Nick never did. And adam…
Victoria: I don’t care what adam thinks.
Nate: But you did earlier today. You know, when you told me that you were raised to protect your family at all costs, I already knew that. My aunt mamie warned me that no matter what I did or how hard I worked, I would always be an outsider to the newmans. So maybe what this is, is a– is a wake-up call for me to work on reconnecting with my family. Put that above everything else. But, whatever the answer is, I’m gonna need some time to find it.
Victoria: Thank you.
Adam: Yeah, yeah. You don’t trust me. I get it. Because when you and victoria screw up, there have to be extenuating circumstances. You’re forced into it. But when I screw up, it’s inevitable. Just part of a dark and wicked soul. I got it.
Nick: Let’s just stop talking to each other right now.
Adam: That sounds great. Dad’s not in there by the way. You just missed him, he left for the day.
Nick: Okay, adam, then I’ll call him later.
Adam: Are you anxious to talk to him about something?
Nick: Why would you ask that?
Adam: Because he asked you to come back to the company. So, are you here to tell him that you’re gonna stick with sharon and kirsten? Or are you gonna give him an early christmas present? Tell him you’re coming back to newman.
Nick: Well, adam, that is between me and dad. I prefer to keep you guessing about my plans.
Claire: I know this is a lot to ask, especially after you’re already putting yourself out for me. But do you think there’s a chance when you drop me off in blue lake, that you could stop in and meet my aunt? Maybe have a cup of tea?
Nikki: Oh. Um, well… that would mean a lot to you, wouldn’t it?
Claire: And to my aunt.
Nikki: I suppose I could, but it would have to be for just a little bit because I only have a short time to be with my sister and I have to make the most of that.
Claire: Absolutely. Yes. And thank you again for being so understanding about me even having to go.
Nikki: Family first. I’ll send you the information on the flight.
Claire: And, thank you again. My aunt jordan is absolutely right. Coming to work for you is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.
[] There’s a way to cut your dishwashing time by 50%. Try dawn powerwash dish spray.
Nick: You don’t look very happy with that phone. Can I get a beer, please? Thank you.
Victoria: I thought you went home to christian.
Nick: Yeah, I did. Uh, you know, checked on him, did his homework with him and then made him brush his teeth and go off to bed. The nanny will take it from there. So, who’s not texting you back or do I need to ask?
Victoria: Nate isn’t answering.
Nick: Yeah. Thank you. Vic, you’re just gonna have to let that go. I mean, the more I think about it, it’s so clear dad needed to get nate out of newman enterprises.
Victoria: Okay. Look, I believe him. You’re not gonna talk me out of it, okay?
Nick: Okay.
Victoria: He’s just kind of wondering what comes next. You know, should he fight for his job at newman or go back to chancellor-winters?
Nick: Do they even want him back there?
Victoria: I don’t know. I don’t know, things change. He’s not exactly high on our relationship right now. He doesn’t like that I– that I sided with adam.
Nick: Well, as you know, I do not like him or trust him, but I know you do.
Victoria: So, did you talk to dad anymore?
Nick: I went by the office, I guess he’d already left for the day. But I did get to run into adam.
Victoria: Oh, adam. What is dad gonna do with him? He’s probably gonna make him my assistant.
Nick: I don’t know. You know, he’s been so unpredictable lately, and as we know, now some of it was on purpose, so who knows?
Victoria: Who knows? So, what about you? What are you gonna do? I know that coming back to newman is not your first choice. But where are you leaning with dad’s latest request? You coming back to the family company?
[ Adam sighing ]
Victor: Hi, my baby. You ready to go home?
Nikki: Oh, that oh-so-casual tone in your voice, as if you didn’t just set the whole family on fire.
Victor: What I did is I kept a little flicker from exploding into a flame.
Nikki: Yeah, I know you’d see it that way.
Victor: Yeah, I do.
Nikki: We have to talk about this.
Victor: All right. What you wanna talk about?
Nikki: I saw victoria earlier.
Victor: Uh-huh.
Nikki: She is furious.
Victor: So?
Nikki: I just want you to be prepared. I don’t think you’ll hear from her tonight, but soon.
Victor: Well, I’m not surprised if she’s upset.
Nikki: Well, of course, she’s upset.
Victor: Yeah.
Nikki: To hear that her father was putting on an act to try to trap one or more of his children.
Victor: Now, wait a minute. As you found out, my setting the trap, you know, was productive, right? We found out that her lover, nate, was manipulative as I had expected. So, she just needs time to work this out.
Nikki: Well, I hope that’s all it takes. Victor, I warned you that this could happen. You could lose her. She could decide to leave the company or worse.
Victor: She’s not gonna leave the company. Her blood is in the company. She’ll never leave it.
Nikki: You can push people too far, you know.
Victor: Well, they can push me too far either. Anyway, let’s not talk about that, okay? I really want to go home and, uh, want to enjoy, our time together. I mean, do you have anything to take home? Any work?
Nikki: No, actually, not tonight. Thanks to claire, I am so organized. I did everything I was supposed to do today.
Victor: Oh, she’s still working out?
Nikki: Ah, yeah, she’s terrific. Although she’s dealing with a bit of an emergency at the moment.
Victor: Oh, what kind of an emergency?
Nikki: Well, the aunt that raised her fell and broke her arm, so claire is getting ready to go to oregon for a few days.
Victor: That’s not a good thing. Break your arm, you get older. Oh, well.
Nikki: And, I hear that her aunt is quite a fan of mine.
Victor: Really?
Nikki: Mm. Claire says that her aunt has read everything about me and thinks that her niece becoming my assistant is the best thing to ever happen to her.
Victor: Well, I’ll be damned. Good.
Nikki: So, I offered her a seat on the jet when I go to napa to see casey.
Victor: Oh, yeah. Your surprise visit to your sister, casey the doctor.
Nikki: Yes. And then, claire could take a commercial flight back when she’s comfortable in leaving her aunt alone. And I agreed to go in and meet the woman.
Victor: All right, go for it.
Nikki: Oh, I don’t know.
Victor: What, darling? What is it?
Nikki: Oh, maybe I shouldn’t leave town at all this weekend with all this family upheaval. I mean, it’s a surprise, casey doesn’t know I’m coming, so she can’t be disappointed–
Victor: Sweetheart, I do want you to take that trip. I mean, you’ve been looking forward to seeing your sister, casey, for a long time. And you haven’t seen each other for a while. I will deal with whatever problems I’ve created here over the weekend. I’ll deal with it, okay? I want you to have a good time. You need the rest, my sweetheart, okay? And then you can bask in the admiration of this aunt, whatever the hell her name is. How’s that?
Nikki: All right, darling. Thank you. I will.

Daniel: How’s your food?
Lily: It’s good.
Daniel: Mm-hmm. Yeah, I forgot how much you liked, uh, chocolate with your pasta.
Lily: Mm-hmm. Who doesn’t? I heard what you said. I’m listening to you, okay? I know what you’re doing. I just have a lot on my mind right now.
Daniel: What kind of stuff do you have on your mind right now?
Lily: Whether I should order pasta with whipped cream next.
[ Daniel chuckling ]
Daniel: You know, I don’t think that’s the stuff you’re thinking about. And in case, um, in case you might be upset with me, um, about other stuff, I, uh, I would just like to clear something up.
Lily: What’s that?
Daniel: I was getting ready to show chloe and sally the apartment and then, you know, sally, she started asking me if I had any general, like, design ideas.
Lily: You mean besides the poker table and folding chairs?
Daniel: Yeah, those. And then heather and lucy, they just showed up at the door. I mean, I didn’t even know that they were back in town and there they were, you know. I guess lucy wanted to surprise me and then well they succeeded on that. But, um, I mean, there was nothing planned about it. You know, I– I was hoping that you would be back from your meeting with devon and we could talk to sally, talk about her ideas over dinner.
Lily: Okay, daniel. Daniel.
Daniel: Yeah.
Lily: You’re babbling.
Daniel: Well, you’re not really making this easy.
Lily: What are you talking about? What am I not making easy?
Daniel: I’m not worried about you and lucy. I know that the two of you are good. You guys are like pals, but… I just want to make sure that heather moving back to genoa city isn’t going to be a problem for us.
Phyllis: Hey, you. Hey.
Danny: Hi.
Phyllis: Hi.
Danny: Good to see you.
Phyllis: You too. I’ve been looking forward to this all day. I mean, this and dinner.
Danny: Oh, um, I’m– I’m sorry. I, well, unfortunately, we have to reschedule it.
Phyllis: Oh, okay. Uh, did something come up like a last-minute gig or something?
Danny: Oh, no, no, no. It was nothing like that. Daniel had a last-minute change in his plans.
Phyllis: Oh, I get it. You told him that you invited me, right?
Danny: No, I didn’t even have a chance to. He just texted me.
Phyllis: Oh, okay. Well, just because daniel changed his plans doesn’t mean we have to. I mean, we could still have dinner together, right?
Chance: Hey. What are you doing here? Hey, mom.
Nina: Hi, honey. Oh, how are you doing? I just talked to your doctor. She said you’re gonna be just fine.
Chance: Yeah, of course I am. I take after my mother. I’m tough. Nothing can bring me down.
Nina: Ah, I love you. Now, what the hell is wrong with you, putting your mother through this? Oh. Oh, are you okay?
Chance: Hey. No, no, no. No crying. No crying. I can’t deal with the crying.
Nina: What do you expect? We’ve been through this before. You know, I can’t stand the thought of anything happening to you.
Chance: I know.
Nina: And you know, this job, it may not be too dangerous for you, but it’s definitely too dangerous for me.
Chance: Hey, look at me. I’m fine. Okay, I’m good as new.
Nina: Geez.
Chance: That’s a promise. Come on.
Lily: You know, you’re really making more of this than you need to.
Daniel: Well, you’ve been awfully quiet ever since we sat down to dinner.
Lily: That doesn’t mean I’m upset. I’m not upset.
Daniel: Okay, then tell me what’s going on inside your head.
Lily: I don’t know. I just, you know, I’m disappointed that I missed your conversation with sally, that’s all.
Daniel: But you’re helping already. I mean, it was your idea for me to hire sally and it was a brilliant idea. You are a part of all of this.
Lily: Am I being selfish?
Daniel: No. No, you’re not being selfish. I wanted you there. You know that I wanted you there. This was supposed to be our fun little thing and well everything just went a little sideways. What was supposed to be a meeting about me decorating my place, turned into a reunion with my daughter and my ex.
Lily: Yeah, I know it’s fine. It’s fine. Okay. It’s my fault. My meeting with devon ran late. You know, and it’s fine. I’m just bummed that I didn’t get to hear sally’s ideas. I was really looking forward to it, that’s all.
Daniel: Okay. Well, in that case, let’s get out of here. Let’s go back to my place right now. Tell you everything that she said to me. You can tell me what you think.
Lily: I thought you want dessert?
Daniel: Not as much as I want to give you a very private tour of my new apartment.
Lily: Like right now?
Daniel: Like immediately.
Lily: Well, you know what? I guess I’m actually too full for dessert too.
Daniel: Okay. Check, please.
Chance: I’m really sorry, I put you all through this.
Nina: You better be.
Sharon: Can you tell us what happened?
Chance: Yeah. Well, I’ll tell you, I never expected to get shot after a crime had been committed. The guy was long gone.
Summer: Then, how did it happen?
Chance: Well. Thank you. There was a jewelry store robbery downtown. We were working the scene. Robbery was already over. The guy was long gone, but he left a pretty big piece of evidence. And I guess he must have realized that he did because he actually came back to the jewelry store to get it. Guy didn’t think that we’d be there yet, so he was just as surprised to see us as we were to see him.
Nina: And?
Chance: Well, he pulled out a gun and, uh, let out a few shots before we could subdue him. Guess one of those bullets had my name on it.
Nina: Yeah, that seems to be a specialty of yours. Remind me when we get home, I’m changing your name.
[ Chance sighing ]
Chance: I’m really sorry for scaring you all.
Nina: How about this? How about you worry about us later? And just focus just focus on getting better, okay? And then when you’re home where you belong, you are so grounded.
Chance: Great.
Phyllis: I heard there’s this really great restaurant right on the lake. They have the most amazing tiramisu, I’ve heard. I haven’t had tiramisu in so long.
Danny: Santino’s, yeah. I– I heard it’s supposed to be really good.
Phyllis: Yeah. Well, let’s give it a try.
Danny: We’ll have to do a rain check. I’m so sorry, phylis. I– I made other arrangements for dinner when daniel told me his plans changed.
Phyllis: Ah. Hi, christine.
Christine: Phyllis. (Vo) ultimate endless shrimp is herewith a limited time flavor drop. New crispy dragon shrimp. One of seven endless choices. Right now, only at red lobster. Welcome to fun dining.
Summer: Uh, so I should get going, but I’m really glad that you’re gonna be okay.
Chance: It means a lot that you came. Thank you.
Summer: Heard the news. Had to at least check up on you.
Sharon: That’s so sweet.
Nina: It is really sweet. Thank you for your concern.
Summer: Well, chance was really there for me through the whole ordeal with my mom, so.
Nina: Ah, well, I raised him right. Listen, summer. I also wanted to say to you that I’m really sorry about what you went through with your mom. That must have been a nightmare.
Summer: Thanks, nina.
Sharon: She even lost her marriage to the love of her life. It was so heartbreaking.
Summer: Yeah, but I’m doing a lot better now, actually. I– I threw myself into work, which has been great and this guy helped, of course.
Chance: You know I got your back.
Summer: Well, I see you’re in very good hands, so get some rest, okay? And follow their orders.
Nina: Oh, trust me.
Summer: Bye.
Elena: Well, well, well, look who’s awake. And I’m glad you got to spend a little time with your mom and the rest of your fan club. But ladies, I’m gonna have to ask you to leave. You need to get your rest, chief. And we’re gonna be transferring you to a regular room soon.
Chance: Oh, I can’t wait. I gotta get the hell out of here.
Elena: Well, then you better behave yourself.
Sharon: Okay. Well, I will see you in the morning.
Chance: I look forward to that. Thanks for coming.
Sharon: Nina, good night. And you need to get some rest too.
Nina: Yeah. Well, I can only promise to try. Can I just have five more minutes with my son, please?
Chance: Mom.
Elena: Okay. Five minutes on the clock.
Nina: Thank you.
Elena: I’ll be back.
[ Summer sighing ]
Sharon: Are you okay?
Summer: Yeah. Yeah, I’m all– I’m okay. I’m just relieved, you know. I mean when chance was telling us what happened, it kind of hit me how dangerous his job really is. It makes me scared for him and all of them.
Sharon: Well, the good news is he’s going to pull through. He’ll be out of here in no time.
Summer: Yeah. Sharon, I hope you don’t think it’s weird that I came here.
Sharon: No, not at all. I– I know that you two have become friends. I’m sure it was more comforting for chance to wake up to a familiar face rather than some doctor or nurse he’s never seen before in his life.
Summer: Still, I’m sure that he would rather it was you.
Sharon: He opened his eyes and in the end, that’s all that matters. He’s going to be fine and you will be too.
Summer: Yeah. Good night, sharon.
[ Daniel laughing ]
Daniel: Great. You can add one more thing to my to-do list. Turn on the electricity. It’s all right though. I have a little, uh, flashlight app on my– on my dead cell phone. Great.
Lily: It’s dead. It’s okay. I have mine. I think I do somewhere here. Um, actually I do not. I think I left it at my place. Sorry.
Daniel: That’s all right. I thought I had a flashlight around here.
Lily: Well, do you have candles?
Daniel: Oh, yes. Ask you shall receive. Voila. Candles.
Lily: Perfect.
[ Daniel laughing ]
Daniel: Oh, look, here’s a flashlight.
Lily: Oh, look at that. Oh, I remember these. Remember? They were so quaint and useful.
Daniel: Uh-huh.
Lily: Well, if the batteries were any good.
Daniel: Okay. Put that on the to-do list as well. Get more batteries. You know, this might pose a bit of a problem. I mean, sally’s vision would, you know, be a little bit better if you could actually see what she was talking about.
Lily: I don’t know. I think it’s kind of romantic. I think it’s beautiful.
Daniel: Mm-hmm. I think you’re beautiful.
Chance: Oh, boy. All right. Let me have it. Read me the riot act. I know you want to.
Nina: Okay, I will. But only because you’re too groggy to argue with me. And since you’ve been shot, I’m just gonna say this and get it out of the way and hope it gets through that thick skull of yours.
Chance: Yeah, I know what’s coming next.
Nina: Oh, do you? Well, mr. Smarty pants. What’s coming next?
Chance: You think it’s time for me to rethink my life and my future.
Nina: Oh, okay. You’re better at this than I thought you’d be.
Chance: Yeah. You know what?
Nina: What?
Chance: I’ve got a surprise for you. When I got hit and went down, the very first thing I thought was, “not again.”
Nina: Really?
Chance: Yeah. Not that I’m old or anything, I know that. But it made me wonder. Am I getting too old for– for this?
Nina: Yes, you are. You absolutely are.
Chance: Next thing I thought is, “how can I keep putting my sweet mother through this when I love her so much?”
Nina: I love you too. More.
Chance: I love you too more too.
Danny: Does nina want us to bring anything to the hospital?
Christine: No. She’s all good. She said chance is just sleeping.
Danny: Oh, okay.
Phyllis: Wait a second. The hospital? Chance? What happened?
Christine: He was shot in an armed jewelry store robbery.
Phyllis: Oh, my god.
Christine: They caught the guy, but unfortunately he was in the line of fire.
Phyllis: Oh, no, this is horrible. I– I know that summer’s become friends with him. Uh, do you know if she knows?
Christine: I have no idea.
Phyllis: Okay. I’m gonna try to get in touch with her.
Danny: How’s nina holding up?
Christine: Oh, well, she’s nina. She’s invincible. A force of nature.
Danny: Yeah. That she definitely is.
Christine: If I were that robber, I would be thanking my lucky stars that the cops got me before nina did.
Danny: Oh, yeah.
Christine: Um, well, our reservation’s in 15 minutes. We should get going.
Danny: Yeah. Yeah. Good idea. Um, phyllis and I were gonna have dinner with daniel and lucy but they, uh, canceled.
Christine: I heard. That’s um, that’s too bad.
Phyllis: Yeah. But don’t worry, I’m not expecting an invitation to join you two.
Christine: Well, the idea hadn’t crossed our minds.
Phyllis: I’m definitely not gonna intrude in your time.
Christine: Very thoughtful of you.
Phyllis: Enjoy yourself. Have fun.
Danny: Uh, we’ll do dinner soon.
Phyllis: Yes. Absolutely.
Danny: When everyone’s available.
Phyllis: I look forward to it.
Danny: Yeah, uh, me too.
Christine: Good night.
Danny: Good night.
Phyllis: Bon appétit.
Chance: Thanks. Mm.
Nina: So, are you really having a change of heart or are you just placating your mother?
Chance: Mom, I don’t know. I can’t say I’ve fully made up my mind just yet. Plus, I probably shouldn’t be making any life-changing decisions while I’m sitting here with a hole in my chest.
Nina: Probably not. But listen, what if you just–
Chance: Mom. Too soon, okay? Plus, you know how many meds I’m on right now. I don’t even think I can decide what flavor jell-o I want for dinner tonight. Let alone what I wanna do for the rest of my life.
Nina: Okay. You’re right. I’ll wait. And I promise not to nag. Okay, never mind that. I don’t even believe that myself. Okay, how about this? I won’t nag. But is it okay if I really, really hope that you decide not to be a cop anymore?
Chance: As if I could stop you.
Phyllis: I’m sorry, danny.
Danny: Sorry?
Phyllis: Yeah, I’m sorry for getting so upset.
Danny: Phyllis, you don’t ever have to apologize for loving our son.
Phyllis: Do you know how lucky we are?
Danny: The luckiest parents in the world? No doubt about it, our son is one tough kid. You know, maybe I should get him some boxing gloves for christmas.
Phyllis: Boxing gloves?
Danny: Yeah. I mean, if he could lick bacterial meningitis, he could take on mike tyson. No, holyfield.
[ Phyllis laughing ] No, on second thought, that’s not such a good idea.
Phyllis: I was thinking maybe he could become a doctor when he grows up.
Danny: Mm-hmm. Win a nobel prize for discovering one of those amazing miracle cures. Sounds good to me.
Phyllis: What if he becomes a writer and writes one of those mommy dearest books?
Danny: You mean about how crazy his mother is?
[ Phyllis laughing ]
Phyllis: Well, what about you? Think of all the dirt he could dig up on you, the big rock star?
Danny: Good point. Don’t cross him.
Phyllis: Hey, supergirl. Hey, how are you? You heard about chance?
Summer: Yeah.
Phyllis: Oh, my goodness. All right. How’s he doing?
Summer: He’s okay. I just came from the hospital.
Phyllis: Oh, that was so sweet of you to visit him.
Summer: I mean, he’s my friend, so..
Phyllis: Well, I’m glad he’s doing better. I mean… why are you so sad? That’s good news.
Summer: I don’t want to talk about it.
Phyllis: Okay. You don’t want to talk about what?
Summer: Mom, please. Can we just not? Can we not?
Phyllis: Uh, can we not what? I’m just asking you questions about chance? Why–
Summer: Mom, seriously? Why do you have to grill me on like every thought that I have? Every mood that I’m in. Everyone I see. Everything that I do. I just, I don’t– I don’t get it.
Phyllis: Uh, I don’t really understand what’s happening now, but I– you know, I’m your mom, I’m not grilling you. You seem upset and I just want to help you.
Summer: No, that’s the thing. You don’t want to help. You just want to know what’s going on so that you can get involved and I just I really don’t want that.
Phyllis: I’m not trying to get involved, whatever that means. I’m just asking you some simple questions–
Summer: Okay, there’s nothing to get involved with anyway. So, let’s just drop it.
Phyllis: Okay. And you’re– you’re making a big deal out of nothing.
Summer: No, you’re not capable of respecting boundaries. I mean, look at daniel and heather.
Phyllis: What do daniel and heather have to do with this?
Summer: You’re trying to push them together?
Phyllis: Okay. First of all, that’s not true. And if you heard that from your brother, that’s a gross exaggeration. I’m not doing that. I just wanted lucy to come here and be closer to her father and closer to me, frankly.
Summer: See? You interfered.
Phyllis: Um, I didn’t interfere. And listen, I’m your mom, okay? And I care about what happens to you. Answer one question for me.
Summer: What?
Phyllis: Is there something else going on with chance? I mean, maybe something more?
Summer: Mom, please stop. Chance is dating sharon.
Phyllis: Oh, really?
Summer: What difference does it make to you?
Phyllis: It doesn’t really make a difference. But. [ Clearing throat ] I want you to be happy, okay? I care about you and I’m really wondering whether or not you’re gonna find true love. And I’d like you to,here.
Summer: How do you know that?
Phyllis: Uh, history, summer. Sharon is all about going after nick, period. She may do her little thing with chance and marry rey, god rest his soul. And she may do this like cat and mouse thing with adam, this love-hate thing, but at the end of the day, it is all about nick and only about nick for sharon.
Christine: Oh, nina, that is such good news. Yeah. Um, yeah. Sweetie, just keep me posted, okay? Um, and know that we’re thinking of you both and sending you so much love. Okay. Yeah, bye. Chance might be able to come home in a day or two.
Danny: That is amazing. Wow. You know, I– I feel sorry for him obviously, but I almost feel sorry for nina. I mean, you and I both know if she’d been to that jewelry store, she would have taken that bullet for her son.
Christine: Oh, there’s no doubt about that.
Danny: Can you imagine what it’s like saying goodbye to someone you love every single day and– and wondering if you’re ever gonna see them again? Like being married to the chief of police. Could I be a bigger bonehead? I’m sorry, that’s terrible.
Christine: No, you don’t have to say you’re sorry. It’s– it’s okay. I’m– I’m fine.
Danny: I– okay. Changing the subject before I put my other foot in my mouth. You mentioned something about chance and sharon. Um, is it something serious or what?
Christine: I– I don’t know. What I do know is that nina is not too thrilled about it.
Danny: Really? Oh, why is that?
Christine: Well, uh, sharon has sort of a dubious track record. Divorce from nick. Married adam. Uh, widow of chance’s former partner. Not exactly daughter-in-law material.
Danny: Yikes. Okay. Well, I guess it’s really none of my business though.
Christine: Okay. It’s– it’s totally none of my business either.
Danny: Yeah. Well, at the end of the day, I think the best we can do is what? Follow our hearts.
Christine: Well, that’s sweet. And, you know, kind of…
Danny: Corny?
Christine: Corny.
Danny: Simplistic. Relationships, they always seem to be so complicated for no good reason. Whatever happened to the simpler, the better?
Christine: Well, that’s us, right? The poster children of simple relationships.
Danny: Hear, hear.
Daniel: Not that I know anything about decorating, but I really like this one.
Lily: Yeah, I like that one. But, I mean, you know, it’s– it’s your home that sally is designing, right? Not a showroom. So, it’s whatever you like.
Daniel: Yeah. No, totally. She’s, uh, also putting together an idea board for me– well, for us to take a look at.
Lily: Yeah. No, that’ll be good because then you can kind of see how everything will look once it’s together.
Daniel: Mm-hmm.
Lily: What is that? Was that– is that drawers or shelves? Like, I can’t really see.
Daniel: I have no idea.
Lily: You know what? I have a great idea. I have electricity upstairs at my place. Do you want– do you want to go up there?
Daniel: Now, you’re just bragging. You know, if I’m being honest, I, uh, I’m not really missing the electricity right now.
Lily: Oh, me neither. You know what I am missing though? Is a bed, a couch, somewhere comfortable.
Daniel: You know what? I have a floor.
Lily: Oh, no, no, that’s not happening.
Daniel: No?
Lily: No.
Daniel: Okay.
Phyllis: Listen, for a long time, as you know, sharon and I were at odds. We hated each other. That’s the truth.
Summer: Mm. It doesn’t seem like you’re all that fond of her now either.
Phyllis: No, we’re never going to be friends, ever. We’ve learned to tolerate each other, be in the same room together, but we’re not going to be friends. In fact, I was gonna work with her and that imploded for some reason. But, I didn’t even feel the need to throw a grenade.
Summer: Okay. That’s a very big step for you, mom. I am proud of you.
Phyllis: Thank you. Thank you.
Summer: You’re welcome.
Phyllis: Mm-hmm. So.
Summer: So.
Phyllis: Um, let me ask you a question. You have feelings for chance.
Summer: Mom, please. I have no desire to try to come between chance and sharon.
Phyllis: Okay. But am I wrong?
[ Summer sighing ]
Summer: No, you’re not wrong. Yeah, I do– I do have feelings for him, but it doesn’t mean that I’m going to do anything about them, okay? So now you know, please just stay out of it.
Phyllis: Hm. Well, I’m probably not gonna stay out of it because you’re my supergirl and I love you. And I want you to be happy. Okay? But see, this is the new me and I’m gonna tell you that I’m proud that you’re showing restraint. See the old me, the old me would have been like, “go for it, go for it, go get what you want.” But the new me is proud of your restraint. It’s the new me. And, you know, I mean you didn’t learn that from me, so…
Summer: Well, mom, I am proud of your restraint too. Seriously. Keep up the good work.
Phyllis: Yeah. I love you.
Summer: I love you too.
Lily: Can I ask you a question now? Just to clear something up once and for all.
Daniel: Yeah. You can ask me anything.
Lily: Have I convinced you that I don’t care that heather is moving back here?
Daniel: Almost.
Lily: What? Just almost? Really?
Daniel: Yeah, I don’t think I’m quite there yet. You know, I– I mean, I’m such a skeptic.
Lily: Oh, well, I guess I’ll have to try again.
Daniel: All right.
Christine: Ah, that was delicious. Thank you.
Danny: Thank you. I enjoyed every minute of it.
Christine: Do you want to hear something weird?
Danny: This is me you’re talking to. Of course, I want to hear something weird.
Christine: Okay. Well, it’s not that weird. But to this day, even after all these years, even after eating at some of the best restaurants in the world, I find myself missing your famous pasta sauce.
Danny: You do? Really? Well, then I’ll have to make it again for you sometime. Yeah.
Christine: I would love that. Then, we’ll make it happen.
Elena: All right, mama. It is time to tell your son good night.
Nina: No.
Elena: He needs to get some sleep.
Nina: What about me and my needs? All right. Sorry. I was never very good at walking away from this one. I wanna thank you and everybody on the staff for taking such good care of him. I was really scared, but all of you and the angels came through for us again.
Elena: Well, no one’s happier about that than we are. So, no thanks necessary.
Chance: Go home, mom. I’m not the only one who needs sleep.
Nina: All right. Goodnight, my sweet son.
Chance: Night.
Nina: Sleep well. Remember, someone’s clearly looking out for you.
Sharon: Oh, hi, summer. Hi again.
Summer: Um, any updates on chance?
Sharon: No, none. All systems are still go for him to be released in a day or two.
Summer: Oh, that’s good. I’ll be keeping him in my thoughts. And just so you know, sharon, I am falling for him. I can’t help it. The heart wants what it wants and I’m not gonna back down.
Sharon: Summer. Are you okay? You zoned out for a minute there.
Summer: Yeah. No, I– I– I’m– I’m fine. I’m just really tired. I’m sure you are too. Night.
Sharon: Night.
Announcer: Next week on the young and the restless…
Nikki: You just focus on taking care of your aunt. I know how important she is to you.
Claire: There’s something else I should probably tell you about her.
Nikki: Maybe I shouldn’t leave town at all this week. And with all this family upheaval, I mean–
Victor: Sweetheart, I do want you to take that trip. I mean, you’ve been looking forward to seeing your sister, casey, for a long time. And you haven’t seen each other for a while.
Nikki: Please, please. Someone help me. Oh, god. Damn it.

Nina: Hi.
[ Christine sighing ]
Christine: Any news?
Nina: The nurse is waiting for the doctor to assess the damage from the bullet. It’s just– it’s too soon to tell. It’s always too soon to tell.
Christine: Chance it’s gonna be okay.
Nina: Why is it always my boy? Why is it always my son? First, it was spain, and then that bullet he took for adam. It’s just too much to take, cricket. It’s just– it’s too much for any mother to take.
Sharon: Elena.
Elena: Sharon.
Sharon: How is he? How’s chance doing?
Elena: Well, I can’t say we’re out of the woods yet, but the prognosis is good.
Sharon: Oh, thank god.
Elena: Yeah, the bullet went straight through. It didn’t hit any major arteries or any vital organs. A quarter inch in either direction and we’d be having a very different conversation. He’s a very lucky man.
Sharon: This wasn’t supposed to happen. He wasn’t supposed to be working this closely with cases. He’s the chief now, management. He should be dealing with the mayor and city council.
Elena: I understand, sharon. I’m so sorry.
Sharon: Can I see him now? Just for a little while, please?
Elena: Yeah.
Devon: Hey.
Nate: Devon.
Devon: Glad you could make it.
Nate: Yeah.
[ Nate sighing ]
Devon: You okay?
Nate: That is the million-dollar question or multimillion, given the circumstances.
Devon: I don’t know what that means. What’s going on?
Nate: It’s a personal matter. I’d rather not get into it right now.
Devon: Okay. If you want to do this another time we can.
Nate: No, no, no, no. You said you want to talk? I’m ready to listen. So, let’s hear it. What did you wanna see me about?
[ Victoria sighing ]
Nick: Looking for somebody?
Victoria: Oh, it’s you.
Nick: Does seem to be the reaction I’m getting from people lately.
Victoria: I’m sorry, I, uh, I was just looking for nate. I thought he might be here.
Nick: Yeah, I don’t see him.
Victoria: No, that’s okay. I should get home anyway.
Nick: Well, I need a drink. Seems like you could use one too. What do you say? Ok, someone just did laundry… no, I add downy light so the freshness really lasts. Yeah, most sce
Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…
Nick: Thank you. So, nate’s upset?
Victoria: He was complete– completely blindsided. As was I.
Nick: Well, uh, dad firing nate did come out of left field, but when it comes to victor newman, don’t you have to expect the unexpected?
Victoria: Well, I certainly wasn’t expecting something like that.
Nick: Have you talked to nate?
Victoria: Briefly. He thinks that I threw him under the bus and that I sided with adam.
Nick: I mean, you did take adam’s side.
Victoria: All I said was that I didn’t think it was a good idea to send dad to a facility somewhere. The only thing I agreed with adam about was keeping it contained.
Nick: I mean, that’s fair.
Victoria: If I had had the chance to explain that to nate, I think he would would have understood, but he won’t return any of my calls. He won’t answer any of my texts.
Nick: Sorry, vic.
Victoria: Are you being sarcastic right now?
Nick: No, I’m definitely not sorry that nate is gone from newman enterprises. I do think he was setting in motion to get dad out of the company. But I am sorry that you’re hurting.
Victoria: Thank you. So, do you believe that nate was being self-serving about this plan that he had for dad?
Nick: I think nate had reason to be concerned about dad, but I think he was playing the long game. You know, to get dad out, to get you back on top and for him to move up to the co-ceo.
Victoria: And you don’t think that adam might have been planning something just as devious?
Nick: I don’t know.
Victoria: I mean, come on, nicholas, it’s adam.
Nick: I’m not unaware of that. I’m just having a hard time getting a handle on where adam’s coming from these days.
Victoria: That’s how he operates. There’s no way that we could ever trust him.
Nick: Yeah. Well, I think he was genuinely concerned about dad, for whatever that’s worth.
Victoria: Or, maybe he’s playing the long game too.
Nick: Yeah, maybe. But I’m far more concerned about you right now.
Victoria: Please don’t be concerned about me. I’ll survive.
Nick: This isn’t just about you getting over some business deal that went south. This is about how you’re gonna get over and move on from what dad did to you.
Devon: So, look, I wanted to get together and talk to you about turning this around.
Nate: Turning what around?
Devon: Us. Everything that’s been going on with us. This– this silent war we’ve been having for the last couple of years now.
Nate: Not always so silent.
Devon: Yeah. I’ll give you that.
Nate: Okay. So, how do you propose we do that?
Devon: I don’t know. I just thought we’d talk about it. Spend some time together like we used to before things all went to hell. I know that you’ve been making an effort with me to put the past behind us and I appreciate that. And I think that it’s time for me, you know, to start making more of an effort with you. And see how that goes.
Nate: Wow. This is a day for big surprises for me.
Devon: What makes you say that?
Nate: Nothing. Long story.
Devon: Well, why you keep doing that?
Nate: Doing what?
Devon: You– you referring to something that clearly happened to you today. Is it work? Is it victoria?
Nate: I’m sorry. I’m sorry, devon. You’re right. You’re right. It’s just been, uh, it’s been a big day for me.
Devon: Well, let’s talk about it.
Nate: No, no, no, let’s, uh, let’s– let’s focus on you and me.
Devon: You sure?
Nate: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. So, um, what changed? Because I had kind of given up hope on us ever having this conversation.
Devon: Well, I mean, it started with mamie and her enthusiasm to bring the family together and have us drop all of our resentments to each other. And I don’t know, that made– that made me and lily start thinking more and more about how neil would handle the situation like this and then, it just hit me.
Nate: What would neil do?
Devon: Exactly? I can hear his voice in my head saying, “give the man a chance.”
Nina: So, elena said the doctors were optimistic?
Sharon: Well, you know doctors never tell you anything absolutely, but everything she said was very positive. And they believe that chance can make a full recovery.
Christine: I knew it.
Nina: I just want him to open his eyes so I can tell him how much I love him.
Elena: Hey, ladies.
Christine: Hey.
Nina: Hey.
Elena: You all look exhausted.
Nina: Oh. Does it show?
Elena: Why don’t you all go and take a break, maybe get something to eat? You could go home, get some rest. That way when chance does wake up, you’ll be here.
Nina: No. What if something happens?
Elena: Then, I promise I will personally call you if anything changes.
Christine: She’s right. Come on.
Nina: No, I don’t think I wanna go.
Christine: We won’t go for long. And we’ll stay close in case we have to come back if there’s news.
Nina: Oh, god. Sweetheart. Okay.
Summer: Elena. Do you know if chance is okay?
Elena: Everything looks good. He’s gonna be fine.
Summer: Could I– could I see him?
Elena: He’s pretty out of it from the anesthesia.
Summer: It’s okay. I just, I– I just wanna be there with him for a little while, if that’s okay.
Elena: Oh, I– I didn’t realize you two were so close.
Summer: Yeah, I mean, we became friends over the last few months. When I heard about this, I…
Elena: Well, you know, his mother just left with sharon and christine, so maybe you could keep him company for a while.
Summer: Yeah, I won’t disturb him. I promise you.
Elena: Okay. You can stay as long as you’d like.
Sharon: Just a splash for you. And you.
Nina: Okay, stop.
Sharon: Enjoy. Me too.
Christine: Wait, wait, wait. To…
All: To chance.
Sharon: To chance.
Christine: And I think you can relax, mom. The worst is over.
Nina: Yeah, this time.
Christine: I know.
Nina: I don’t think I can take this again, cricket. Really. He’s gotta stop. He just has to.
Christine: Okay. Well, easier said than done with a guy like chance.
Nina: I don’t care. This is the third time I’ve had to sit in a waiting room in a hospital or– or by the phone to find out if my son is gonna make it through the night. I just…
Sharon: I know it’s hard to live with that kind of fear, but we have to accept that this is what chance has decided to do with his life.
Nina: No, I don’t accept it. Not anymore.
Sharon: Well, what can you do?
Nina: I’m gonna ask him to stop. I’ll beg him if I have to.
Christine: Haven’t you already tried that?
Nina: I will try harder. He just can’t keep doing this to the people who love him. Maybe you can convince him.
Sharon: Me?
Nina: Well, I know that you guys are seeing each other and from what he’s told me, he really cares about you and maybe you could be the one to finally get through to him.
Sharon: Oh, I don’t know about that.
Nina: I would think that you would at least want to try. I mean, given the circumstances
Sharon: What circumstances?
Nina: Well, I mean, wasn’t the last man that you were involved with a cop too?
Sharon: Yes. Rey rosales. And I wasn’t just involved with him. He was my husband. And losing him really broke my heart.
Victoria: Do you know when you first told me that dad was faking his illness to set a trap? I couldn’t believe it.
Nick: That he’d do something like that? Come on. You know better than that.
Victoria: No, not that– that he would think I was a threat or somebody that would be disloyal to him in that way.
Nick: Somebody like adam?
Victoria: That is not a club I want to join anytime soon.
Nick: Which I said to dad like a dozen times, but he just kept referring back to how angry you were when you got demoted that he had stepped back in as ceo.
Victoria: Of course, I was angry. I had every right to be angry. But that doesn’t mean that I’m gonna conspire against dad or try to sabotage the company. When I heard that he thought that, I mean, it– it made me physically ill.
Nick: All right. Well, what are you gonna do about it?
Victoria: I don’t know. I– I just– I just have to think this through. I need to connect with nate and let him know that I was on his side. I’m still on his side.
Nick: Well, I don’t think all of his anger belongs completely to you.
Victoria: I hope you’re right.
Nick: I mean, he’s probably angriest at himself. He got outplayed by the master. Nate really thought he was holding all the cards. But then dad sets his trap and nate walks right into it.
Victoria: This is not over yet.
Nick: For nate? Uh, yeah, it is vic. It’s over.
Victoria: No. He can fight. He can fight to get his job back. And I’ll be right by his side.
Nick: Against dad? After everything that’s happened? I don’t recommend that.
Victoria: Why do you say that?
Nick: Dad believes he has solved the problem. Eliminated a threat. He sees nate as a defeated enemy in his mind.
Victoria: Well, I’ll just have to convince him that he’s wrong.
Nick: All right. You should also know that dad is pressuring me to come back to newman.
Victoria: Well, that’s not news. I mean, he’s been saying that ever since you left.
Nick: Yeah. Well, he wants me to take nate’s job.
Victoria: So, when did this happen?
Nick: In dad’s office. Right after he fired nate. That’s when he gave me his pitch. I guess he thought that since nate was one of the reasons why I left in the first place, if he wasn’t around, it might entice me to come back.
Victoria: What did you say?
Nick: I didn’t say anything.
Victoria: Well, did you tell him you were gonna think about it?
Nick: I literally didn’t say anything. I just walked out. But I know it’s not going to be the last time I hear about it.
[ Victoria sighing ]
Victoria: What are you gonna do?
Nick: I don’t know. Sharon and I have this new company. It’s about to launch. I can’t just walk away from it. On the other hand, this feels like it might be another one of dad’s tests. Put you, me, and adam all in the same place and see which one of us wants to wear the crown the most.
Victoria: Yeah, if dad ever gives it up.
Nick: That is a good point.
Victoria: You know what, nick? I– I just need to calm down. I can’t make any decisions when I’m this upset.
Nick: Then don’T. Let’s just get another drink.
Victoria: No. You know, I think I’m gonna head down to the club and listen to some music. I can figure out what to do about dad in the morning. Do you want to come with me?
Nick: No. I’m just gonna finish this and get home to christian. Vic, don’t worry about it, all right? We’re gonna figure it out. Then, everything will be back to normal.
Victoria: Yeah. Maybe.
Nick: Night.
Victoria: Night.
Sharon: Rey did not die in the line of duty. He, uh, was in a terrible accident and he didn’t make it.
Nina: I’m really sorry.
Sharon: Thank you. I loved him very much. He was a good man. And he was a good officer. And yeah, being with him meant that I had to wonder every day that he was on that job if he was coming home. It wasn’t my first time through that kind of fear.
Nina: So, you know.
Sharon: Yes, of course I do. The difference is I chose to be with rey and chance, knowing the danger and just doing the best I can to accept it, but you are chance’s mother. God knows you wouldn’t have picked this line of work for him under any circumstances. There’s no worse feeling than having a hurt child and knowing that there’s nothing you can do about it.
Nina: But maybe there is something that you can do about it.
Sharon: Like try to convince chance to quit? I wouldn’t presume to try to do that.
Nina: Even after this? Even after what you just told me about rey?
Sharon: You know, maybe secretly, I hoped that becoming the police chief would take him out of danger, but I should have known better than that. There’s no way that chance would settle for being a desk-bound chief. He needs to be out there in the action. Always.
Nina: I will never understand why.
Sharon: Maybe it’s just something deep in their core, you know? Something they feel that they were born to do and neither you or I, or anyone else can talk them into giving that up.
Nate: I appreciate you reaching out, devon. I do.
Devon: Well, that sounds like a but.
Nate: There’s been a lot of blood in the water. Yours and mine. We need to agree to let all that go.
Devon: Yeah, obviously. That’s why we’re here. That’s why we’re talking about it.
Nate: And I’m sure, you know, it’s not gonna happen overnight.
Devon: Of course, I know that. I mean, we did a lot of hurtful things to each other. So, obviously, it’s gonna take a minute to get past all of that. But I also know at the end of the day, we’re family. And I know that we can learn to forgive each other no matter who did what to whom. And I don’t know about you, but this weight of resentment that I carry around for you is getting pretty heavy. And I’d like to put it down.
Nate: Do you think that’s possible after everything that’s gone down between us?
Devon: Well, I think anything’s possible. And it really comes down to us making a choice about it. Right? I remember not too long ago I was playing with dominic and he did something that was really funny and i wanted to share it with you. And I pulled out my phone and then remembered that we weren’t speaking to each other at the moment and it didn’t make me feel good. It made me feel dumb. And it made me feel sad that I couldn’t share a moment like that with someone that I knew who would care. And I don’t want to feel that way anymore. I wanna choose to not have a problem with you. I want choose to remember that in spite of everything, we love each other.
Nate: You know, you should have called.
Devon: Well, hey, next time I will call.
Victoria: Nate. Um…
Devon: Hey.
Victoria: Hey. I’ve been looking all over for you. Can we talk, please? Type 2 d
Nate: I don’t have anything to say to you right now.
Victoria: I know you’re upset.
Nate: Upset? Not even close.
Victoria: Can we just sit down and talk about this? We need to just find a way to work through it.
Nate: I am having a conversation with my cousin. We are trying to repair our relationship, so I’m not gonna get into this right now in front of devon.
Victoria: Nate…
Nate: Victoria. Have a good night.
Victoria: Please don’t shut me out.
Devon: Hey, guys, we can do this another time, nate, all right?
Nate: No, no, that’s not necessary.
Devon: No, no, no, no it is. You guys clearly need to speak. Um, we made progress though today, right?
Nate: Right.
Devon: Okay. Let’s build on that, okay?
Victoria: Thank you, devon.
Devon: Yes. I’ll see you guys.
Victoria: See you. Look, I know– I know you’re angry. You’re furious. I am too. My father, he set this trap for all of us.
Nate: But apparently, I’m the only one who got caught in that trap.
Victoria: Oh, come on. That is so unfair. I will talk to him.
Nate: Victoria. Victoria, stop. Just stop. I get what victor was trying to do. He was pulling his family together. I’m just now beginning to see how important that is. But when it came time to choose sides, you chose adam. Of all people. When I needed you to have my back, you– you chose him instead because he’s family.
Victoria: No, nate. That’s not true.
Nate: Did adam get fired? Did you or nick? Look, I should have seen that coming. I should have known that when it comes right down to it, the newmans will always circle the wagons to protect themselves. So, how am I supposed to feel about that, huh?
Danny: Hi. Is, uh, is everything okay here?
Christine: Chance was shot earlier tonight.
Danny: Oh, my god. What? Is– is he all right?
Sharon: The prognosis is good. We’re just waiting to hear something more.
Danny: I’m so sorry. I– I– I don’t even know what to say.
Nina: No. That’s okay. I’m just really happy he’s alive.
Danny: Yeah. Yeah, we all are. Is there anything I can do?
Nina: Well, no, thank you so much. That’s very sweet.
[ Phone ringing ]
Sharon: Oh, that’s elena. She says we can go back to the hospital now.
Nina: No, cricket. Stay here and talk to danny.
Christine: No, no I want to be there for you.
Nina: No, I’m fine. And believe me, you have been there for me. I would be even a bigger wreck if it hadn’t been for you. All right? I’ll keep you posted.
Christine: You promise?
Nina: Yes, I promise.
Danny: Love you. Wow. Well, listen, the most important thing is that it sounds like he’s gonna make it, right?
Christine: Yeah. Yeah.
Danny: You okay?
Christine: Yeah. Yeah. I’ve just– I’ve been trying to keep it together for nina, but you know, this one was– this one was hard. This one– this one scared me. I– I’ve known chance since he was born. We worked at the justice department together. He helped me through the whole phyllis ordeal. He’s such a good guy. Why did something like this have to happen to him?
Danny: I wish I had an answer for that.
Christine: I– I have to tell paul. He and chance are really close.
Danny: You might want to wait on that, at least until the good news is official, all right?
Christine: Okay. Yeah, you’re right. Thank you.
Danny: It’s gonna be all right.
Christine: I know. I know. It’s just– it’s such a shock when you hear something like this. Especially when it’s someone that’s close to you.
Danny: Yeah. It’s a terrible feeling, but a good example of how your life can change in an instant. In a blink of an eye, your– well, your whole world turns upside down. It’s a good reminder to seize each and every day. As if it could be last.
Christine: Carpe diem?
Danny: You got it.
Christine: I couldn’t agree more.
Summer: I wish that you would wake up. I mean, I know you are going to wake up. But maybe you could wake up right now and just let me know that you really are gonna be okay. I wasn’t prepared for this. I– I know that your job is is dangerous, but I just– I wasn’T…
[ Summer sighing ] When I heard that you got shot, I got this feeling in the pit of my stomach. Like what if? What if I never saw you again? What if I never talked to you? What if I could never bore you with my problems again? Chance, I– I need you to know that I really don’t think that I could have gotten through everything with my mom if you hadn’t have been there for me. You became my friend when I really needed one. I just want you to know that I’m grateful. I’m really grateful that you’re in my life. So, you gotta be really strong and you gotta get through this because… I– I can’t bear the thought of losing you. (Man)
Christine: What was that?
Danny: Uh, it’s daniel. He’s had a change of plans. Uh, looks like we have to reschedule our dinner.
Christine: Oh. Well, that’s too bad.
Danny: Yeah. I was really looking forward to it. On the other hand, I– well, I am free for dinner. Care to join me? What?
Christine: Uh, I’m trying to figure out how to respond to that.
Danny: Well, uh, yes or no works pretty well.
Christine: Yes.
Danny: Okay.
Christine: On one condition.
Danny: Name it.
Christine: That neither of us looks at this as something that could be misinterpreted.
Danny: As a date? Okay. Got it. You want to make sure you, me, everybody else understands, this is not a date. Confirmed.
Christine: Right. Because I mean, it’s just two friends hanging out eating.
Danny: Sure. Absolutely. In fact, you know, you could help me with some new lyrics I’ve been struggling with.
Christine: Yeah, that’ll be the day.
Danny: Hey, I’m serious. I wrote some of my greatest songs when you were in my life.
Christine: Danny…
Danny: I heard you the first time. It’s not a date, confirmed.
Christine: Um, will I get some royalties this time?
Danny: I think we can figure something out.
Christine: Okay.
Victoria: I wish there was some way that I could make you understand.
Nate: I don’t think it’s that complicated. You had a choice to back me up and you chose not to.
Victoria: No, nate. I didn’t fight for your plan because I didn’t agree with it.
Nate: Oh, so you would rather have your father locked up in some corporate cocoon instead of getting him the help we all thought he needed.
Victoria: Yes.
Nate: Then, you’re right. I don’t understand.
Victoria: Look, I was raised to put protecting the family above everything else, no matter what. So for me to think that my father was losing his mental capacity was overwhelming for me. He’s always seemed so invincible.
Nate: Which is how he got us to believe he was losing it in the first place. Gotta give the man credit. I usually have a pretty good bs detector and he sold it like a pro.
Victoria: I was scared. I was scared if we lost control of the narrative and if word leaked out that victor newman was acting erratically, the fallout from that would make things much worse for him and for the company.
Nate: Well, the joke turned out to be on us, didn’t it?
Victoria: Yeah, I did. But be honest, nate, wasn’t there a small part of you that saw the opportunity for me and you to be in control of newman again.
Nate: No, victoria. I saw it as an opportunity for you to take control. And why shouldn’t you, given the circumstances? What is wrong wanting the best for you? Victor needed to be somewhere controlled. I stand by my choice. That is if any of this had been true.
Victoria: Look, you explained why you went ahead and signed dad up for the clinic and I chose to believe that. I did. But can’t you see and understand for one minute how my father could have thought you were trying to push him out so that I could step in? It’s not a totally irrational reaction on his part.
Nate: That you choose to believe me, I guess it’s something, but not enough.
Victoria: We can salvage this.
Nate: I don’t think I want to salvage this. After seeing victor willing to put you and your family through whatever cruel game he was setting up, why on earth would I want to be a part of that?
Victoria: Because I don’t think that you’re ready to turn your back on newman enterprises just yet.
Nate: I’m gonna need some, uh, some time before I make a decision about my future.
Danny: What’s the word from the hospital?
Christine: It is all good. Nina is with the doctors right now and they’re telling her chance should make a full recovery.
Danny: That is incredible. I– I am so happy for them.
Christine: Me too.
Danny: So, what are you thinking for dinner? You, uh, you know, thai, sushi, your choice, whatever you like.
Christine: I don’t know.
Danny: What do you mean you don’t know?
Christine: Maybe this isn’t such a good idea.
Danny: Eating?
Christine: You know what I mean.
Danny: Yeah, I do. Look, I know this is a very hard, confusing time for you. You and paul have been together for a long time and you have things to resolve and you need time to resolve them. I get that and the last thing, the very last thing that I’d ever want is to make you feel awkward or uncomfortable. I’m just really hungry and I don’t like to eat alone.
Christine: Okay. I could use a burger.
Danny: Still medium, no onions?
Christine: Yeah.
Danny: Okay.
[ Phone chiming ]
Victoria: I want you to know something. I– I would hate for my father’s actions to cause things to fall apart for us.
Nate: I have to be honest. After today, I’m gonna have a hard time trusting where I fit in your list of priorities.
Victoria: Which is why I want to find a way to make things up to you. And I will.
Nate: I know you mean that now.
Victoria: No, nate, I’m not just saying it to smooth things over. I really do mean it. I want to fight for us.
Nate: So, what happens when another issue comes up that puts me at odds with your family? Your parents don’t trust me. Nick never did. And adam–
Victoria: I don’t care what adam thinks.
Nate: But you did earlier today. You know when you told me that you were raised to protect your family at all costs, I already knew that. My aunt mamie warned me that no matter what I did or how hard I worked, I would always be an outsider to the newmans. So maybe what this is, is a– is a wake-up call. For me to work on reconnecting with my family. Put that above everything else. But, whatever the answer is, I’m gonna need some time to find it.

Phyllis: Hey, danny. Hi.
Danny: Hey.
Phyllis: Not surprised I ran into you again. Big, little town, right?
Danny: [ Chuckles ] Yeah.
Phyllis: I know you love this time of year. It’s so beautiful out and crisp and cool. And that magical thing that the light does at a certain time of day.
Danny: It’s, uh– it’s nice.
Phyllis: It is nice. I got two words out of you.
Danny: Oh, it’s, um– I mean, you know–
Phyllis: Shh, shh. Yeah, I know. The bug comes back into town and suddenly, I’m the pariah, right?
Nina: Hey.
Christine: Hey.
Nina: Hi, my friend. Oh. You good?
Christine: Yeah.
Nina: I feel like I’m totally monopolizing your time.
Christine: Gosh, I’m so glad you texted. We have to take advantage of the fact that you’re in town. I am happy to hang with you while chance finishes up this investigation he’s involved in.
Nina: Yes, my son, the police chief. That’s like, one word, by the way. I thought he would be working more regular hours now, but clearly not.
Christine: Yeah, he’s not really the kind of guy to be content behind a desk.
Nina: No.
Christine: And look, we get to spend time together.
Nina: Yeah, it was really nice reminiscing and catching up earlier.
Christine: It was so nice to talk openly and honestly, and not feel judged.
Nina: What do you mean judged? For what? Because you felt something for danny when you saw him again? Please. I mean, maybe, you guys had some rough times, but you were madly in love with the guy.
Christine: Things just ended with me and paul.
Nina: So, it’s not like anything happened between you and danny.
[ Christine sighs ] Did something happen between you and danny?
[ Christine sighs ]
Chelsea: Hi, hi. Oh, good. I’m glad I’m not late. This is great, isn’t it? Summer wanting to meet outside the office, talk informally.
Chloe: Yeah, being summoned by the boss is always a great sign.
Chelsea: Chloe, it’s just coffee. It’s just people talking. I know you and summer have been butting heads a lot lately, but honestly, I’d be worried if you weren’T. Nothing worth having is ever easy. This is gonna be great. It’s gonna be positive. It’s gonna be proactive.
Chloe: Yeah, I don’t–
Chelsea: Here she comes.
Summer: Hey, chloe. Hey, chelsea. So happy to have you back.
Chelsea: It’s great to be back. I’m ready to get started.
Summer: Sounds great. But before you do, I just– I wanted the three of us to sit down together and chat and clear the air. And chloe, you’ve expressed some frustrations with the design process. She feels like I’ve been a little intrusive.
Chelsea: Well, um, actually, chloe and I were just talking about it and it’s perfectly normal to have creative differences. You know, sometimes, it can be the engine to generate great work.
Summer: Yes, I– I totally agree with that, and chloe, I respect your perspective as well, and your long history in fashion and all of the expertise that you bring.
Chelsea: And we respect your role as ceo, that it’s your job to further the vision.
Summer: Exactly, it should be a collaboration and I really am confident that we can strike the right balance.
Chloe: Yeah. I just don’t think that’s possible.
Nate: I’m fired?
Victor: You’re damn right.
Victoria: For what?
Nick: Dad–
Victor: You had it all planned, nate, didn’t you, hm? Send me to some looney bin surrounded by doctors who didn’t give a damn about my health, just to keep me away from here, right?
Nate: Victor, if you believe that’s true, then, we still have a problem.
Victor: I have all the proof right here. I talked to the head of that looney bin. He gave me a full report.
Nate: Victor, I was protecting your privacy. Of course, I had to arrange things in advance. There needed to be ndas, precautions.
Victor: You are lying now and you were lying then.
Victoria: Dad, please, just calm down.
Victor: I’ll calm down when I feel like it, all right? Now, all of you may as well know this whole thing on my part was a charade. I didn’t have any lapses of memory. I knew full well who was in charge of newman media. Didn’t forget a damn thing. I didn’t have lapses. Or fits of paranoia and then, forget about it a few minutes later, I didn’T.
Adam: You didn’t forget that your granddaughter was dead?
Nick: I asked you point-blank if this was a setup.
Victor: I had to find out who… would possibly betray me. And adam… I was leaning in your direction. But to my relief, I found out the real culprit was not you.
Adam: Hm.
Victor: I had to know who I could trust and who I couldn’T.
Victoria: Even me. You didn’t trust even me?
Victor: I had my doubts about all of you.
Victoria: Based on what?
Nick: Don’t waste your time looking for logic.
Victoria: No, no. I need to hear it.
Victor: I watched you when I told you that I would step back and sit in this chair and demote you.
Victoria: So, I’m suspect because I had an honest, human reaction to being shunted aside.
Victor: The point is, I had never seen you that angry. And I always suspected, you had been sitting in this chair for far too long. Power corrupts. Even now, you’re more concerned about your position than about what your boyfriend has done.
Victoria: You know, regardless of nate’s choices, he was only trying to help. You’re the one who– who imagined this illness and pretended your mind was slipping.
Victor: I did what I had to do. And the outcome proves that I was right.
Victoria: Okay. That’s great. But I would never, ever inflict anything like that on you or anyone else in this family.
Adam: Well, maybe one person. If we’re being honest.
Victoria: I am so hurt. I’m hurt that you think I would take advantage of you in that way. Just because you think I’m angry about being demoted?
Victor: Don’t you understand my position? I’ve built this into an enormous empire. We have employees all over the world. I saw it fall apart slowly but surely because of all the in-fighting. And because of nate. I know someone was scheming to take this over. That’s why I reacted the way I did.
Victoria: All right. Fine. So, how long were you planning on keeping this from all of us?
Nina: So, you saw danny after the last time we spoke?
Christine: Mm-hmm. Right after, at the club.
Nina: After lauren mentioned he was there with phyllis.
Christine: Yeah, because I know how phyllis operates. She’ll trash talk me, try and cut me down in danny’s eyes.
Nina: Please, like that could ever happen.
[ Gasps ] Oh, I wish I could have seen both of their faces when you walked in. I’m sure, for danny, it was like phyllis didn’t even exist, right? Ah, she must have been livid. Oh, does it make me a bad person that I am just relishing the thought of her public humiliation?
Christine: She had to go somewhere with daniel anyway.
Nina: Yeah, what happened after that?
Christine: Oh, boy, nothing happened. Not like you’re imagining.
Nina: How do you know what I’m imagining unless you’re imagining it too.
Christine: Oh, god. Okay, it was– it was sweet.
Nina: Mm-hmm.
Christine: Natural. Danny was over at the piano, you know, playing around with a song and he asked me to join him and tell him what I thought.
[ Nina gasps ]
Nina: And it was magic.
Christine: It’s just really easy being with him.
Nina: Which is why I encouraged you to explore the possibilities. I mean, you’re both free and you have such a special connection. And it sounds like you still do.
Christine: When I ran into him, we hadn’t seen each other in months and the last thing I ever expected was to talk about my breakup and how miserable I was. But suddenly, I found myself just opening up to him. He’s such a good listener.
Nina: Yeah, I mean, he’s not better than me, right?
Christine: Oh, no one is a better listener than you.
Nina: Okay, good. So, okay, last time we spoke, you didn’t even know that there was something to pursue with danny. And it sounds like maybe, you’re more sure now.
Christine: You know, don’t read too much into this. We’re reconnecting as friends. Danny and I have a lot of history to unpack, and I’m not exactly in the best place emotionally.
Nina: But the timing. You guys both showing up here at the same time, it’s just– it’s kismet.
Christine: I’m not rushing into anything.
Nina: All right. You’re probably smart.
[ Christine chuckles, sighs ]
Phyllis: Well, you know, one minute, we are talking as friends, sharing so much history and we do have so much history, and then, the next minute, you’re monosyllabic. I mean, that’s not all in my head.
Danny: Hey, nothing has changed. I still admire how you’re trying to turn your life around. The efforts that you’re making, working side by side with our son.
Phyllis: Thank you.
[ Chuckles ] You’re just admiring me from arm’s length, right?
Danny: I don’t know where this is coming from.
[ Phyllis sighs ]
Phyllis: She has it in for me. We both know that.
[ Danny sighs ]
Danny: Christine has more important things on her mind, trust me. And whatever you’re hanging on to, I don’t know, it feels like you’re projecting it onto me.
Phyllis: You know what? You’re right.
Danny: And do you honestly think that I would just change my mind about you because of something anyone else said? That I’m that suggestible?
Phyllis: I– oh, I’m sorry. It’s just old patterns die hard. I just– my guard comes up when it comes to the bug, that’s all.
[ Danny sighs ]
Danny: I wish you would stop calling her that.
Phyllis: Oh, okay. The cricket.
Danny: How about just christine?
Phyllis: Yes, I could do that.
Danny: Thank you.
Phyllis: Christine, see?
[ Phyllis chuckles ]
Danny: Look, she just came back into town after what seemed like a really rough breakup with paul, okay? She’s going through a difficult and emotional time right now. So, please just– just leave her alone. Hi, my name is damion clark. If you have both medicare and medicaid, i have some really encouraging news that you’ll definitely want to
Summer: Look, chloe, I’m being sincere when I say that I– I want to listen. I– I want to find a way to oversee the design department that works for all of us.
Chloe: I’m not questioning your sincerity. I am just making an honest assessment of the situation and this can’t work.
Chelsea: You know, I think chloe and I need a few minutes to talk privately before we continue.
Summer: Yeah. Sure.
Chloe: No, there’s really no need.
Chelsea: No, I think there’s a need. [ Laughs ] There’s a need because we’re partners, so, um, I know you’ve been frustrated lately, but I–
Chloe: Yeah, and this situation is only going to make things worse. Okay, you talk about wanting to find a rhythm, but i don’t think it’s possible. Not when you’re so hands-on. And not when there are three of us involved in the creative process.
Summer: Chloe, I’m the ceo of marchetti. I have to be hands-on.
Chloe: It’s not a criticism. Okay? It– when there are two people, you can find a rhythm. A back and forth. A give and take. That’s what balance looks like. We’ve done it before.
Chelsea: That’s right, we’ve done it before, and that’s what we could have again now.
Chloe: Yeah, but when you add a third voice, then one is just struggling to be heard.
Summer: Okay, maybe– maybe, you two should take a minute to talk.
Chloe: Look, I respect what you’ve done with marchetti. And the vision that you have. Where you want to take the company. And now, that chelsea is back, I think that you can find that rhythm and that balance. But inevitably, I am just going to be the odd one out, struggling to be heard. And it’s not where I wanna be right now.
Phyllis: Oh, my goodness, danny, I’m trying to change my life. Do you think I want to revive some old battle?
Danny: But you’re making all these assumptions about christine.
Phyllis: It’s because she– you know what? You’re right. I’m just gonna lay off of the– christine.
[ Laughs ] See? That was me trying, I’m trying.
Danny: Yes, I see that.
Phyllis: Listen, I feel for her. What she’s going through. I know what it’s like to be…
[ Sighs ] …Ending a relationship, and you lose a part of your life, you know? You lose a part of your heart. I don’t wish that on anyone. You think I’m so self-involved I can’t see the pain she’s going through?
Danny: No, but I– I see you falling back into your old dynamic.
Phyllis: Well, I think that’s what happens when you’re so used to fighting for your life. And fighting for people you care for.
Danny: Okay, positive reinforcement. All right, I see the effort you’re putting in, I do.
Phyllis: Thank you. I appreciate that. It may be boring for you to keep on saying it, but i like to hear it. [ Laughs ]
Danny: No, I– I’m really– I’m happy to help, seriously. No, I am.
Phyllis: Thank you. And I do feel bad for christine. I really do. Genuinely. I don’t wish that pain on my worst enemy.
Danny: Now, you’re not just saying what I want to hear, are you?
Phyllis: Oh, you think I’m trying to impress you? Really? Are you just so used to adoring fans screaming out your name?
Danny: I am.
Phyllis: Trying to impress you all the time? [ Chuckles ]
Danny: This is just me and you talking here. Come on.
Phyllis: Yeah. It is just me and you talking. I’m not the same person I was. I want you to know that. I’m a work in progress.
Danny: Hey, aren’t we all?
Phyllis: Yeah, aren’t we all? But I’m working really hard to change some old patterns, you know?
Danny: Yeah.
Phyllis: And you know what? I think I’m gonna get into meditation, yeah.
Danny: Oh.
Phyllis: Yeah. Imagine me trying to quiet down my brain.
Danny: I– I felt the same way when I first started. In fact, you know, most people do, um. I’ve been doing transcendental meditation for years now and it’s really helped me tremendously.
Phyllis: Oh, wow. Would you teach me?
[ Danny laughs nervously ]
Nikki: I’m so sorry. I wanted you to know that your father’s decline was all an act. I told him what it was doing to you.
Victoria: You still said nothing.
Nikki: Because if you had known the truth, you would have taken it straight to nate.
Victor: And then, we would never have known of nate’s true intentions. Right, nate?
Nate: What? Victor, I offered a sound medical solution to most effectively get you diagnosed and treated. It was in your best interest.
Victor: Nate, I respect you. You’re a bright man. Accomplished man. But you wanted to commit me to the looney bin so that you and victoria could grab back the power that I had taken from her, right?
Nate: I was protecting the company by providing you the best care based on years of medical experience.
Nikki: Nate, stop. You didn’t care about what was best for victor.
Nate: Why, nikki? Because I thought it was a bad idea to turn newman enterprises into some sort of makeshift clinic. Okay, news flash, it was a bad idea. But all you seem to be worried about is making it look like victor is still working and nothing is wrong.
Adam: I would have protected the company and our father with minimal chances of exposure or leaks.
Nate: Right. Right. Because that’s how you all like to operate, isn’t it, adam? In the shadows, making up your own rules. I was pulled into those shadows and wound up regretting it. I did nothing wrong. My plan was sound and it was above board. And guess what? I had no ulterior motives. But the newmans have decided and there’s no convincing you otherwise. You know what? You did me a favor firing me.
[ Door slams ]
Victoria: We’ll talk about this later.
[ Door shuts ]
Danny: As entertaining as it would be for me to watch you sit still and try to calm that brain of yours, I– I can’t teach you.
Phyllis: You can’t or you won’t?
Danny: You have to be certified, you know, do an in-residence training, and– well, it requires a high level of commitment.
Phyllis: Well, just give me pointers, that’s all.
Danny: No, no, that would defeat the whole purpose. If your goal is to– to change and benefit from the practice, you don’t want to just dabble in it.
Phyllis: Okay, it’s sort of a foreign concept for me. Being introspective, right? I’m from the school of wild abandon, sort of, you know, free and loud.
Danny: Yes, definitely that.
[ Phyllis laughs ]
Phyllis: I’m just looking for someone to sort of hold my hand. Metaphorically speaking.
Danny: Yes, of course. And a certified trainer, he can– can help you, you know, tame those wild impulses.
Phyllis: I’m not sure I want to be tamed.
Danny: He can show you how to harness all of that raw energy, you know? And so that you’re not at the mercy of those impulses.
Phyllis: Well, hook me up.
Danny: Okay. I’d be happy to.
Phyllis: Great. I’m excited. Well, maybe, transcendental meditation is off the table for tonight, but possibly, we could have dinner? I’m free.
Danny: Oh, I– I would love to, but I already have plans.
Phyllis: Okay. Okay. Let me guess.
Danny: Oh, it’s– it’s not christine.
Victoria: Look, I don’t know what to say, but I’m sorry.
Nate: Because I got fired?
Victoria: No, for all of it.
Nate: Oh, including the part where you ignored the only doctor in the room. Hm? Given what we were dealing with, what we both thought we were dealing with, I offered victor the best course of action and you didn’t have my back. I thought we were a team.
Victoria: We are. We still are.
Nate: It certainly didn’t feel that way in there.
Victoria: Look, I’m as angry about all of that as you are.
Nate: No, not even close.
Victoria: Oh, my god. After everything that I have done to try to prove my worth and my loyalty to my father–
Nate: I am sure, you– I am sure you will get over it. You will be fine.
Victoria: Look, I– I hate that things turned out this way.
Nate: Is that supposed to make me feel better? Because it doesn’T. You basically threw me to the wolves.
Victoria: That is not true.
Nate: You sided with adam. My god, if that doesn’t tell me everything I need to know about your priorities.
Victoria: Nate.
Nate: And you know what? For the record, adam’s plan was the perfect setup for him to manipulate victor from the inside. If you didn’t see that, you really weren’t paying attention.
Nick: I mean, you didn’t have to put us through all of this just to get rid of nate.
Victor: Son, I didn’t know it was nate. I had to come up with this loyalty test to find out.
Adam: [ Laughs ] Which, dad, you expected me to fail?
Victor: Yeah.
Adam: Spectacularly. You thought I would be the one to take advantage of the situation, make a power play, you all did.
Nikki: Yeah. With good reason.
Adam: Man, I– I gotta hand it to you, pop, that was a hell of a playbook. And the execution, I mean, I really thought that you were mentally in decline. And the prospect of that, of seeing you go through that, I’m not gonna lie, it shook me up.
Nikki: Adam, spare us.
Nick: I have no doubt you were planning to use this to your advantage.
Adam: To what advantage, nick?
Nick: Dad gives you every opportunity in the world. Another chance, no matter what you pull, or how far you push the limits.
Victor: Nick, I got to be very honest with you. I am convinced that adam acted in my best interest and the company’s best interest.
Victoria: My father did this to you, did it to all of us. If you’re gonna be angry at someone, be angry at him, not me, okay? I did not throw you to the wolves.
Nate: You know, I don’t totally blame you. It’s in your dna, all a part of being a good newman. One victor can be proud of.
Victoria: I had no idea what he was gonna do in there. None.
Nate: And when you realized what was happening, you fell right in line, didn’t you? You still have your job, your family. I’m on the outside looking in.
Victoria: There is a way to fix this.
Nate: It would mean taking a stand you don’t want to take. Victoria, all I wanted to do was protect your father and give you back what you deserve while he healed. Those details he’s so indignant about were entirely reasonable. Not some proof of a coup. But that doesn’t seem to matter. To any of you. You know… my mistake was thinking you’d have my back instead of showing blind obedience. I won’t make it again.
Victor: You know, it would have been one thing for all of your siblings to fight like this when things are going well. But god forbid, there would have been a crisis, this would have been catastrophic.
Nick: There was no crisis.
Victor: You don’t know that. We don’t know that. Adam though, knew what was at stake. He asked all of you to work together.
Nick: Well, we’ll never know that, will we? Because you ended the charade before nate could be put to the test.
[ Door clicking ]
Victoria: Nate deserved better. You should have given him the benefit of the doubt. Why did you have to fire him so quickly?
Victor: Did you listen to what I said before? He had called the looney bin. Arranged it for me to leave here. So that he and you could grab back the power that I’ve taken from you.
Nick: Nate wanted a home-court advantage for you.
Victor: Right.
Nikki: Darling, it was about getting you back in charge so that he could then be co-ceo more than any real concern for your father.
Victor: And he would have done anything to achieve that end. And it was also his revenge on me.
Victoria: For what?
Victor: For demoting you.
Victoria: All right, dad. All right, however you want to justify it, okay? But what you did, pretending that something was terribly, terribly wrong with you, that was cruel.
Victor: And your mother pointed out, I couldn’t risk telling nate the truth. And my instinct turned out to be right.
Victoria: You know what, dad? Your mind, it may not be slipping, but your instincts are. They’re worthless when it comes to adam. You know, you claim that you expected him to betray you, but it was really just this whole game to find a way to give him yet another free pass and to excuse all of the terrible things that he’s done.
Adam: That’s not true.
Victoria: All of it at the expense of the people who love you. Who care about this family and who want to protect your legacy. I’m sorry, but I don’t know if I can forgive you for this.
Nikki: I warned you this would happen.
[ Phone ringing ]
Summer: I’m so sorry. I’ve got to take this. I’ll be right back.
Chelsea: No problem. Chloe, I didn’t know you were considering leaving.
Chloe: I– I hadn’t seriously considered it until this meeting, but I think it makes sense.
Chelsea: No, no, it actually, makes no sense. It actually makes zero sense because we’re a team. So, if you leave, it’s just me and I– I can’t be a one-person team.
Chloe: Stop. We are a great team because you are a creator and I am a facilitator. That’s why it works. But now that you’re at marchetti, you have a great facilitator.
Chelsea: Is this about summer? You don’t like her?
Chloe: I have nothing against summer.
Chelsea: She’s a newman.
Chloe: True, but she’s the least newman of all the newmans, I really– I have no problems with summer.
Chelsea: Okay. Good. Because we’ve had worse bosses. I mean, we worked for gloria.
Chloe: [ Laughs ] Right. And even as annoying as she was, she always let us do our own thing, but, you know, it’s– it’s not like that with summer. She wants to give her input.
Chelsea: Well, I think she just wants to guide us.
Chloe: She wants to do more than just guide us. And it’s– look, it’s okay. She is the ceo of the company. She should do what she wants. It’s just not right for me.
Chelsea: [ Sighs ] Chloe. I need you.
Chloe: No, you need to create, to build something.
Chelsea: Well, I don’t want to do it without you.
Chloe: Don’t say that. After everything that you’ve been through the past couple of years, you deserve to really dig in and build something. I mean, this is your opportunity, you have to take it. Me, I– I’m happy with where I’m at. Kevin’s happy, the kids are happy. I mean, gosh, my mom is even perfectly content working here, sticking her nose in everyone else’s business. But I am good. I don’t need this. Look, chelsea, you’re gonna be fine. I promise you.
Summer: I’ll check in later, okay? Bye. Chloe, tell me what I can do to get you to stay with us.
Chloe: There is nothing that you can do to change my mind.
Summer: Come on, there’s gotta be something. Look, I know that it’s on me to create the right work environment where you’re challenged without wanting to run for the exit.
Chloe: No. I really don’t want you to take this personally, summer. I– I just don’t think it’s a good fit for me.
Chelsea: How can you be sure?
Chloe: Because I experienced it earlier with sally.
Chelsea: Sally?
Chloe: She invited me to tag along on a consult. And I don’t know, we just started bouncing ideas off of each other and– and fell into this rhythm that made me realize that this is what a collaboration could feel like.
Chelsea: Yeah, that’s what we used to have.
Chloe: It’s a totally different situation now, chelsea. I don’t want to feel like I have to soldier on to make it work. It wouldn’t be fair, to either of you.
Summer: Just so you know, I am willing to try.
Chloe: Because you’re a consummate professional. You are a pair of rock stars. You are going to do something great together. I adore you both, but…
[ Chloe sighs ] I just think it’s time for me to move on.
Danny: Why are you so hung up on the idea that there’s something going on between me and christine?
Phyllis: No reason. I guess I’m just nosy. It’s none of my business, actually.
Danny: Daniel and lucy. That’s who I’m having dinner with tonight.
Phyllis: You are? Lucy’s in town?
Danny: Yeah, she got in this afternoon.
Phyllis: Oh, my goodness. Really? Heather too?
Danny: I’m pretty sure. Yes.
Phyllis: That’s interesting.
Danny: Yeah. Don’t go there.
Phyllis: I– I– no. I’m just so excited to see my granddaughter.
Danny: Yeah, you made it very clear that you’d like heather and daniel to get back together again.
Phyllis: You know, that was a mistake. I overstepped. I’m not interfering. I learned my lesson.
Danny: Good. You go down that route and you’re just gonna push daniel away.
Phyllis: And I don’t want that to happen, so I’m gonna stay out of it, I promise.
Danny: Uh-huh. Sudden impulses, they just keep getting away from you.
Phyllis: Hey, can you cut me some slack, please?
Danny: This is me being supportive. Wanting you to get out of your own way.
Phyllis: I know that and I’m working so hard to change. You have to understand that, please. My family, my kids. Honestly, it’s my top priority, danny.
Danny: Okay, in that case, you are welcome to join us.
Christine: My personal life isn’t my focus right now. It’s really my professional future.
Nina: Yet, you said that another term as D.A. Didn’t appeal to you.
Christine: I just– it started to wear on me. How people like phyllis could just walk after committing such horrible crimes. You know, free to inflict themselves on the world.
Nina: But wait, listen, don’t let your feelings about her influence this very important decision, right?
Christine: I just don’t have an appetite for it anymore.
Nina: But there are plenty of other, more fulfilling ways to use your legal skills. You were talking about private practice, maybe pro bono.
Christine: Pro bono, yeah. Something out of the spotlight. Corporate law.

Nina: The hospital. This is nina webster. Yes, I’m his mother. How bad is it? Okay. I’m on my way. I’ll be right there. Chance has been shot.
Adam: So, just to be clear, dad, you really are all there.
Victor: Hm. I’m as lucid and as sharp as I’ve ever been, boy.
Nikki: I can attest to that.
Victor: I’ll also do everything in my power to protect what I built.
Adam: So, where do we go from here?
Victor: Nicholas, where do you stand in all this?
Nick: Dad, vic has devoted her life to preserving and growing what you’ve built. I can understand why she’s so hurt. I hate seeing her go through this.
Victor: So do I. But I have a feeling that she knows that what I’m saying about nate was correct. She must have experienced and seen his growing ambition for more and more power.
Nick: Make no mistake, I’m glad nate’s gone. But I guess, I’m more surprised it wasn’t adam who walked into your trap.
Adam: Hey, I told you that we need to pull together for dad, okay? You’re the one who wouldn’t put your personal feelings aside.
Nick: Don’t you go there with me.
Victor: Nicholas, now the nate is gone… I need you at the company.
[ Nick sighs ]
Nick: If I were you, I wouldn’t be so sure vic is gonna forgive you. And to her mind, this may be one betrayal too many.

Summer: Look, I appreciate your candor, chloe.
Chloe: Well, I haven’t been exactly shy about how I feel.
Summer: That’s true. But I understand why you’d want to be in a situation that you feel passionate and excited about.
Chelsea: So, you’re really walking away?
Chloe: I think I am.
Sharon: Okay, just as soon as you could get here would be great. I really need to get to the hospital. All right, thank you, esther.
Chelsea: The hospital?
Summer: What’s wrong?
Sharon: Chance has been shot.
Christine: Excuse me. Chance chancellor, the new chief of police.
Nurse: They just brought him in, second room on the left.
Christine: All we were told is he was shot in the chest. How bad is it? What’s his status?
Nurse: We’re waiting for results of the imaging to verify the extent of the damage.
Christine: Okay.
[ Nina sobbing ]
Nina: Chance. Oh, sweetheart. It’s me. It’s your mom.
