Recap written by Terry

Ashley and Tucker were married. A doubtful Abby walked her mother down the aisle. Earlier she noticed Ashley looked deep in thought and told Ashley she did not have to go through with the wedding. Ashley chalked it up to a bride’s nerves. Once she and Tucker were married, Jack presented Ashley with documents that returned her own company’s assets back to her. Jack said he wanted to do so to end the war between them.

Tucker appeared eager to marry Ashley again, but earlier Victor told Tucker that Ashley was marrying Tucker to get control of Jabot from Jack and that Tucker was just along for the ride. Tucker responded that Victor may be right or he may be wrong.

Victor said he knew about the company Tucker and Ashley bought in Europe and it could be a foundation for a new business. Tucker remarked that he thought he and Ashley had kept that a well concealed secret.

That evening at the ranch Victor and Nikki discussed the motives of Audra and Nate,  who were both promoting the merger of Newman Media with Adustus. Nikki informed Victor that Audra visited her and Nikki suspected Audra is planning something with Nate. Audra later joined Nikki and Victor at the ranch and said she wanted to explain why she is promoting the merger.  The visit raised suspicion, and Victor later told Nikki that Adam is behind Audra’s and Nate’s desire to have Adustus and Newman Media merge.

Earlier, Audra and Kyle formed a plan to get Audra out from under Adam’s control. Audra told Kyle about the top secret mess she had to clean up for Tucker, but now Adam Newman knew about it and was blackmailing her. Adam wants Newman Media back and even though she would lose her job if the merger was successful, Audra had to do Adam’s bidding.

Sharon: Oh, my gosh. Thank you for bringing aria by. I swear she has gotten bigger since the last time I saw her.

Mariah: Since yesterday?

Sharon: Well, babies change quickly.

Tessa: If you’re trying to imply that you want to see aria every day, message received.

Mariah: The only way to get her to settle down is by driving her around now. So, once she was conked out, we figured we would risk it and come grab a cup of coffee, and also, check in on you.

Tessa: But everyone needs to stay quiet, so she’ll stay asleep.

*****************************

Mariah: That is a very good point. I mean, Sharon and Nick, great. Sharon, nick and Adam? Maybe not so great. And once upon a time, Adam was obsessed with Sharon and now I guess it– it’s sally, but who knows what’s next for that guy?

[ Both laughing ] But on the flip side, how stressful and uncomfortable is it gonna get at Jabot?

Tessa: Hmm. I know that you want to look at every angle, assess every risk, but you’re not gonna have complete information to make this decision. You’re gonna have to trust your judgment. What do you think will give you the best chance at success and happiness?

Sally: I don’t get it. Why aren’t you as excited about this as I am?

Chloe: Um, because I’m not new in town. Because I have actual brain cells that are connected. Because this is victor Newman that we’re talking about.

Sally: Exactly. Victor Newman has offered us a contract to head up a whole new design division at Newman Enterprises. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Chloe: So, you think accepting an offer from victor is a good idea, but letting nick back us with no strings attached isn’t?

Sally: Okay, Chloe, we’ve already been over this. My relationship with nick is far too important to let money get involved. It will muddy things and I’m not willing to run that risk. But this thing with victor, it’s clean.

************************************

Nikki: I trust my son’s instincts, and they are telling him that you have a hidden agenda. Now, if that turns out to be true, consider yourself forewarned. It will never come to fruition.

Nate: You have my word, Nikki.

Nikki: Newman enterprises has survived much more dangerous threats than any self-serving game plan that you could come up with. Actually, it’s very simple. The house always wins. Am I making myself clear?

Nate: Crystal.

Nikki: I’ll tell you what. I have a quick meeting outside of the office. Why don’t you meet me at the athletic club? With Victoria in Madrid, it’s a perfect opportunity for us to sit down, just the two of us, and you can tell me how you see your future at Newman

Ashley: I’m so happy we decided to spend the night here. I’m so sick of the Jack and Diane show.

Tucker: Thank god one of us had the genius idea to do a little dress rehearsal for our own wedding night.

Ashley: Yeah.

Tucker: Or should I say undress rehearse

************””””””””””””””””

Tucker: Can I just have one piece of toast with my coffee? Thank you very much. So, what do you make of billy’s growing disillusionment with his older brother? Can that be useful to us?

Ashley: I don’t know. He was absolutely furious with him though, wasn’t he?

Tucker: Yeah.

Ashley: Enough to betray jack? Is that what you’re hinting at?

Tucker: Just looking at all the angles.

Ashley: Billy’s capable of it. He and jack have gone head to head on several issues over the years. Do you think we should lead him along, and see where it goes?

Tucker: Can he be led along? Or is he still more of a “looking out for number one” type guy.

Ashley: Well, he has been, but I think he’s definitely in a different headspace now. Can you imagine how great it would be if he was on our side, tucker? How helpful that would be? It would be incredible.

Tucker: I know, so, let’s begin the grand persuasion.

Ashley: Hm. Good idea. Billy. Join us.

Adam: I have to hand it to you, Phyllis. When it comes to laying waste to your enemies, you are in a class by yourself.

Phyllis: Hey, don’t sell yourself short.

Adam: Well, compliment accepted. But in this case, I would advise against it.

Phyllis: Why?

Adam: You’re facing very serious criminal charges.

Phyllis: I’m innocent.

Adam: Right, which is all the more reason to act like a model citizen until the trial is over.

Phyllis: Hey, this isn’t just about vengeance on tucker mccall. It– it’s a necessity

Summer: You’re a very wise man. Do you know that?

Chance: Now, you’re just making fun of me, aren’t you?

Summer: No, I’m not. I really do wish that I had, um, your sense of clarity and calm. I mean, what, were my mom and i out of town when they were passing those things out?

Chance: There you go, being hard on yourself again.

Summer: No, I– I’m just all out of solutions, chance. I mean, my mom too. She’s panicking, I can tell, even though she’s trying to hide it.

Chance: Well, she’s in a tough spot. There’s no doubt there.

Summer: I love her and I’M… so glad that she’s home. I want her to be safe. But I really did think that when she got back here, that kyle and i would have a chance to heal. That’s just not how it turned out. I– I don’t know how to accept it and move on. I don’t.

Chance: I’ll tell you how. You just take it one day at a time. Sometimes, one hour at a time, all right? But you’re gonna get there. I know it.

Summer: It’s hard. I feel like I’ve got a million things in my head and I can’t even focus on any of them.

Chance: Well, summer, maybe it’s time you let your mom deal with her life and you focus on yours.

Billy: Why would you be surprised that I didn’t support jack on his big wedding day? You were standing right there. You know exactly how I feel about it.

Tucker: It’s just been my experience that the Abbott clan tends to bury the hatchet for special occasions.

Billy: Yeah, this is not a special occasion to me.

Tucker: Okay. Guess I was wrong.

Billy: Actually, the more I think about it, tucker, the more it pisses me off. Because my brother is losing his mind.

Tucker: I tend to agree. But where does that leave you exactly? You just going to have to let it go, or have you finally had enough

***************************************

Adam: Why even bother? I mean, isn’t that the definition of insanity? Just repeating and repeating the same action, hoping for a different result?

Victor: Adam, then meet me halfway, son.

Adam: [ Laughing ] Listen, there is no halfway. There is your way. And I– I never seem to measure up to that.

Victor: I run this company! I run this family! I am the head of it! You have got to understand it once and for all! Stop fighting me! I’ve been hoping for years that you would get rid of your anger and resentment toward me because you grew up without a father on that farm in Kansas. That’s not my fault. That’s your mother’s fault! I keep on hoping that you would become the son I always wanted you to be.

Adam: Okay, but then, what if I say you are right, I am wrong and I will let go of everything Newman Media. Will that change anything? I mean, not that I don’t appreciate these little pep talks, but where are we, dad, exactly? Will the Adustus-Kirsten deal still go through with me attached as planned?

Summer: You’re loving this, aren’t you?

Audra: No, I actually, um, couldn’t care less. But I will say this, you know, I think, um, it’s kind of sad that you’re showing how controlling you are. Wait, didn’t you betray Kyle’s trust, not the other way around?

Summer: Audra, you don’t know anything about our relationship. And I highly doubt you know the meaning of trust.

Kyle: Okay, please just stop. There’s no point in turning this into a fight.

Summer: It’s not a fight. Look, I know that I hurt you and I know that you might hate me, and that’s something that I have to live with. But I hate seeing you like this. Kyle, what are you doing? Don’t destroy your life because of what I did. You’re better than this.

Ashley: Hi.

Billy: I’m okay. Uh, listen, um, I thought I should tell you because, well, it’s not fun to be left in the dark, as I’ve found out a few occasions lately, but, uh, jack and Diane are getting married today in a civil ceremony.

Ashley: Yeah, I heard. Diane told me earlier.

Tucker: Oh, wow.

Billy: Okay.

Tucker: I’m tearing up.

Billy: As you know that I’ve been supportive of jack, but I think he’s crossing the line with this move.

Ashley: Really? You never thought diane was a threat before.

Billy: I mean, he’s rushing into this, clearly, and he’s not taking any steps to protect himself. I guarantee you he doesn’t have a prenup, and I think we can all agree that can be very dangerous.

Tucker: Do you even care?

Billy: He’s my brother, tucker, so yeah, I care. But I would be lying if I said this rush to the altar doesn’t have me questioning everything else now, to

Nikki: Hey.

Victoria: Hi. How was your meeting?

Nikki: It was good. Oh, I ran into Diane. That always kills a good mood.

Victoria: Can’t believe Jack actually married her.

Nikki: Well, Billy, tucker and Ashley were also there and she brought up their wedding invitation.

Victoria: Well, there’s another odd coupling.

Nikki: I know. I don’t understand it. I don’t even know if victor’s gonna wanna go, even if he does get back from his trip in time. So… what did you and nate talk about after I left? And what do you think about his suggestion?

Victoria: You first.

Nikki: Well, you’re not gonna like what I have to say.

Victoria: When has that ever stopped you, mom?

Nikki: I think Nate is testing the waters and this is the first step of a power play.

***************

Victoria: I actually agree.   We’re never gonna be best friends, Lauren.

Lauren: Well, did we think that that would ever happen?

Phyllis: You, on the other hand, are… you’re an incredible friend. You stood by me when I never thought I was gonna get out of this mess and you put your arms around me and you kept on telling me it’s gonna be okay. And michael too. Oh, you two– you two are the best friends in every sense of the word.

Lauren: And we always will be.

Phyllis: Champagne?

Audra: You know, given your eagerness to push this forward, I think you need me as much as I need you.

Adam: Oh, yeah? Do I?

Audra: I’m willing to take the risk and call your bluff. I’ll help you if you promise me that–

Adam: What do you mean? Like, a pinky promise? Like cross my heart, hope to die?

Audra: In writing that I will maintain a power position within the new company’s structure. Otherwise, I’ll take my chances.

Adam: You know, you’re negotiating when you have zero leverage.

Audra: Actually, I have a few cards up my sleeve to help deal with the fallout if you do decide to release the damning information about tucker and me.

Adam: So, you’re giving me the go ahead to go public with this?

Audra: If you release those emails, you’ll make tucker an enemy for life. Now, do you really wanna do that? You know, when it can all be so easy for you if you just give me what I want.

***********************

Tucker: Wow. Well, this takes remote work to a whole ‘nother level. Running the company from a bar? What do you got there? Vodka tonic?

Billy: Actually, Tucker, it’s a club soda. As I wait for my food to come back from the kitchen so I can take that and then go back to the office to continue to work. Not that I have to explain anything to you. Let me guess, you two got ousted from the detente conversation?

Diane: No, we chose to leave to give Ashley and jack privacy so they can hopefully work things out.

Billy: Mm, that was big of you. I’m glad that they’re trying because I’m sick and tired of the fighting. I’m sick and tired of… jack sacrificing the well-being of jabot in defense of you, Diane.

Summer: What now?

[ Knocking on door ]

Daniel: Summer, it’s me. Did you happen to get a strange text?

Summer: From mom to me?

Daniel: What do you think it’s about?

Summer: I have no idea. To be honest, I’m not sure that I want to know.

Daniel: Yeah, me neither.

Summer: I’m honestly done with all this drama from her. Last I heard, the plea deal was still on the table.

Daniel: Same. She’s probably just trying to figure out a new way to stay out of prison.

Summer: Wouldn’t be surprised.

[ Daniel sighing ]

Daniel: If we go to meet her, what are we walking into?

Summer: Probably another nightmare.

Lauren: Nice set up, donna reed.

Phyllis: Ah. Thank you. You’re alone. No michael.

Lauren: Yes. Michael didn’t make it back. I’m so sorry. And so is he.

Phyllis: Oh. He’s in singapore still.

Lauren: Yep. You know. Gloria’s legal issues, far more complicated than we thought.

Phyllis: Aren’t they always?

Lauren: Pretty much. But heather did right by you.

Phyllis: Yeah, she did, she did. But, truth be told, it was really me who turned the judge around.

Lauren: Of course. And well done. I’m so happy for you. And is that what this is?

Phyllis: Yes. It is a celebration.

Lauren: With family?

Phyllis: Yeah. And friends. Yes, yes. It’s a celebration of my freedom.

Adam: Oh, wait. What about this one, hm?

Sharon: Looks rustic.

Adam: Yeah, what’s wrong with that? I mean, I did grow up on a farm.

Sharon: I thought that you would prefer a office space that was more modern.

Adam: Nah, I think we should go the anti-newman tower route.

Sharon: I do like the open floor plan.

Adam: Okay, what do you think? Top three?

Sharon: Move it to the top of the spreadsheet, along with the one on hoffman street and the one with all the pillars.

Adam: Oh, you were so excited about those pillars.

Sharon: Just need to make sure it has enough offices for you, me, nick and mariah, now that she’s coming on board.

Adam: And don’t forget about phyllis.

Sharon: It’s all coming together. So, now that we have already been very productive this morning, let’s move on to a different topic.

Adam: Okay, hit me.

Sharon: Have you thought about a new name for the company since everyone in their right mind hates adustus?

Adam: Okay. Touche. I’ve actually been thinking about that. Newman media does have a very nice ring to it.

Sharon: Ha. Too bad it’s already taken.

Adam: Has that ever stopped me before?

Audra: So, how are things going? Were you able to get victoria on board with the idea of merging newman media with adam, nick and sharon’s company?

Nate: Getting there.

Audra: Look, I saw adam earlier and he has no qualms about releasing the damning emails between tucker and me if I don’t deliver for him.

Nate: Things are gonna work out. It’s just gonna take some time. We just need to get victor to see the advantages.

Audra: No, no, no. You need to get victoria and nikki on board first.

Nate: Yes, but I need to be careful not to overstep, especially with nikki. She’s still suspicious of my motives.

Audra: Well, adam isn’t gonna wait forever. If he thinks that this is not gonna go anywhere and those messages get released–

Nate: Audra, I am aware of what is at stake for you, but I have my own. You’re asking a lot of me.

Audra: And I appreciate your support.

[ Nate sighing ]

Nate: I honestly think this merger is gonna happen anyway. Getting ahead of it and proving its value will help my position with the newmans. That’s the main reason I’m willing to proceed.

Audra: Understood.

Nate: Just remember, I am walking a fine line here and you need to know, if things even threaten to go sideways, I am out.

Victoria: You first.

Nikki: Well, you’re not gonna like what I have to say.

Victoria: When has that ever stopped you, mom?

Nikki: I think nate is testing the waters and this is the first step of a power play.

Victoria: I actually agree. Tide is busting laundry’s biggest myth…

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Nikki: You agree with your mother? How novel.

Victoria: Yes, I do. But, that doesn’t mean that there’s anything wrong with nate wanting to test the waters with an idea or hoping to make some sort of power play. That just means he’s thinking about the future of the company. That’s what we look for in a good executive.

[ Nikki sighing ]

Nikki: I should’ve known you’d find a positive way to spin this.

Victoria: Look, he has made some very salient points about the redundancy of having two media companies under the same umbrella. Now, does that mean that he’s suggesting that we make moves behind dad’s back? No. He simply wanted to run the idea by us first.

Nikki: Well, that was a wise decision.

Victoria: When dad gets back from europe, I think nate would like us to discuss the concept openly. It’s an idea worth debating.

Nikki: Is nate aware of the tensions that already exist between you and adam?

Victoria: Yes, he knows about it. I told him.

Nikki: Then, why would he think you would agree to bring adam even closer?

Victoria: Need I remind you, mother, that early on, I had the idea of folding mccall into newman enterprises.

Nikki: Yes, I know and you changed your mind.

Victoria: That’s true, but nate’s points, they have merit. I believe the idea should be entertained.

Nikki: Did you happen to ask how audra would fit in to all of this? Because he has to know that she would be given a position subservient to adam. Yet another reason to question nate’s loyalty.

Audra: I completely understand your caution, but there’s no reason for you to place my jeopardy above your own.

Nate: I won’t throw you to the wolves either.

Audra: That’s a relief.

Nate: Listen, I’m not saying this can’t work out, but it’s not easy a sale as you think it is.

Audra: I tried to explain that to adam, but he expressed zero sympathy.

Nate: There’s gotta be something else adam wants, other than newman media. Something you could still help facilitate in exchange for his silence about the mccall cover up.

Audra: Adam’s holding all the cards and he made his wants clear. We can’t change the game now.

Nate: I’ll bet you can spin it in a way that will appeal to him. I thought you loved the challenge.

Sharon: I hope you’re only joking. Victor already shot down the idea of combining our company with newman media. Have you learned absolutely nothing at all about baiting your father?

Adam: Sharon, I’m tenacious about certain things and this is one of them and victor never actually shot down the idea.

Sharon: Adam.

Adam: He didn’t want to talk about it in the moment. Or at least, that is how I interpreted it. I imagine that he first wants to see how we do with mccall-kirsten, that combination.

Sharon: You will be putting us all in a tight spot if you continue to pursue newman media. I don’t appreciate that. Nick won’t either.

Adam: Um, I imagine that victor will become more receptive to the idea at some point.

Sharon: What makes you think that?

Adam: I just have a feeling.

Sharon: Okay. What are you up to?

Adam: Hm?

Daniel: You know, if we are gonna meet with her, then we need to be prepared.

Summer: I gotta admit, this latest revelation, it’s thrown me for a loop. I had to force it out of mom, but she told me that tucker is the reason carson is back in town.

Daniel: That’s because of tucker?

Summer: Yeah. And now, he is blackmailing mom.

Daniel: I knew it. I knew that something was going on when I saw the two of them together, but she wouldn’t admit it and neither would he.

Summer: Well, just wait because it gets worse. Now, she’s using adam to get out from underneath tucker’s blackmail.

Daniel: Of course, she is.

Summer: She always chooses the worst path to go down and asks the worst possible people for help.

Daniel: It’s classic mom.

Summer: I’ve come around to your point of view. She is her own worst enemy.

Daniel: Okay. So, at what point do we say enough is enough? And we stop, you know, buying into her poor decisions?

Summer: It’s gonna be sad if she goes to prison. It will be, but I can’t keep twisting myself into knots over her problems anymore. I can’T. What?

Daniel: You just– I don’t know. You seem different.

Summer: I am different.

Daniel: No, like you’re shut down or something.

Summer: I’m not shut down. I just have found… new ways to cope and to move forward.

Daniel: Good. And I’m here to support, you know, whatever you need. You know that, right?

Summer: I do. I know that and I appreciate you and I am here for you too. We need to be here for each other. Let’s do this. Let’s go talk to mom together. Let’s tell her that we are done with her insanity.

Daniel: Let’s go.

Summer: All right.

Phyllis: I also asked my kids to come, um, but I wanted you here because you are a crucial part in me being in this place, so.

Lauren: Me? How?

Phyllis: Because you were there for me and you supported me and you never gave up, even though I put you through a lot.

[ Lauren sighing ]

Lauren: Well, I love you more than I could ever be mad at you, and michael as well. He was so upset not to finish out your case. He did not want to leave you hanging.

Phyllis: No, I get it. Family first.

Lauren: Yeah, but we are so grateful for heather. I mean, she did her part. You did your part and look at you. I’m so proud of you.

Phyllis: Thank you. You know, michael agreed to defend me and that was everything to me. It gave me a lot of confidence. I mean, there were times during– during the whole ordeal where I thought, “what would michael say?”

Lauren: Yeah, and so in true form, what did you do? Think about what michael would say and do the opposite?

Phyllis: Well, not really, but I would’ve driven him crazy for sure. I put heather through the ringer.Y pleading guilty and throwing myself at the mercy of the judge, I mean…

Lauren: Well, you know what? You pulled it off. You pulled it off with flying colors.

Phyllis: And I’m free. And guess what? Christine didn’t win. I’m not going to prison.

Lauren: Okay, but you have to admit, she did the right thing. She accepted the judge’s decision.

Phyllis: That was surprising.

This is a “cbs special report,” I am margaret brennan in washington. We are coming to you on the air to bring an announcement from the department of justice. Attorney general merrick garland is making a statement and is making some detailed remarks that we will bring you in a moment. What we know is that it has to do with president biden son, hunter biden. Let’s listen in.

Good afternoon. I’m here today to announce the appointment of david wise as a special counsel consistent with the department of justice regulations governing such matters. In keeping with those red regulations I notified the designated members of each house of congress of the appointment. In february 2018, after being nominated by the former president and confirmed by the senate, mr. Weiss was sworn in as the united states attorney for the district of delaware. Mr. Weiss had been a career prosecutor serving previously in the office for more than a decade. Beginning 2019, mr. Weiss in his capacity as U.S. Attorney and along with federal law enforcement partners began investigating allegations of certain criminal conduct by, among others robert hunter biden biden. That investigation has been recently referenced and federal criminal proceedings and the district of delaware and has noted in those proceedings other public statements by mr. Weiss’ office that investigation remains ongoing. In february 2021, he was asked to remain U.S. Attorney for delaware and in that capacity to continue to lead the investigation. As i said before, mr. Weiss would be permitted to continue his investigation and any steps he wanted to make the decision whether to prosecute in any district. Mr. Weiss has told congress he has been granted ultimate authority over this matter including the responsibility for deciding where, when, and whether to file charges and for making decisions necessary to preserve the integrity of any prosecution consistent with federal law, the principles of federal prosecution command departmental policies. In july 2023 letter to congress, mr. Weiss said he had not to that point requested special counsel designation. On tuesday of this week, mr. Weiss advised he and his judgment, his investigation reached the stage which he should continue his work as special counsel and he asked to be so appointed appeared upon considering his request as well as the extraordinary circumstances relating to this matter, I have concluded it is in the public interest to appoint him as special counsel. This appointment confirms my commitment to provide mr. Weiss all the resources he request. It also reaffirms mr. Weiss has the authority he needs to conduct a thorough investigation and to continue to take the steps he deems appropriately independently based only on the facts. Mr. Weiss will also continue to serve as U.S. Attorney for the district of delaware. A special counsel, he will continue to have the authority and responsibility that he has previously exercised to oversee the investigation and decide where, when, and whether to file charges. The special counsel will not be subject to the day-to-day supervision of any official of the department, but he must comply with the regulations, procedures and policies of the department. Consistent with special counsel regulations of conclusion of mr. Weiss’ work he will provide me with a report explaining the contribution or declaration decisions reached by him. As with each special counsel who has served since i have taken office, I am committed to make as much of his report as public as possible consistent with legal requirements and department policies. Today’s announcement affords the prosecutors, agents, analysts working on this matter the ability to proceed with their work expeditiously and to make decisions indisputably guided only by the facts of the law. The men and women undertaking this investigation are public servants who have dedicated their careers to protecting the citizens of this country here at the appointment of mr. Weiss and forces for the american people the department’s commitment to both independence and accountability and particularly sensitive matters. I am confident that mr. Weiss will carry out his responsibilities in an evenhanded, urgent manner and in accordance with the highest traditions of this department. Thank you.

You just heard extraordinary work remarks from the attorney general, merrick garland, who walked off without taking the shouted reported questions and there are many of them. What he just announced is going to have both tremendous legal and political implications. He just said that on tuesday of this week I’m at the U.S. Attorney in delaware, his name is david wise, he was appointed by former president trump and has continued in that role did come to the justice department and asked the attorney general for a special status, special counsel status peer that legal status would allow for him to continue his ongoing investigations that include the already known part of the probe that has to do with hunter biden, president biden’s son. It may go beyond what we already know had been discussed with that same U.S. Attorney who was the U.S. Attorney who handled that plea deal, which, if you recall back in july was entered and fell apart. Well, now that U.S. Attorney has come to merrick garland and asked to be given some level of independence from the department as special counsel. This raises a lot of questions, and we want to go right now to weijia jiang, senior white house correspondent who is standing on the north on there. I know neither of us are lawyers but in terms of the politics of those, the white house has insisted throughout that they are not touching the justice department here and not having any influence over the attorney general. Now, this announcement really gives that special status to the attorney general’s claims by making david weiss the special counsel. What do we know about whether this is the first time the white house has heard of the decision?

Wijia: So far the white house has not offered any comment about this remarkable announcement but it is really important to understand how we got here. It was just over two weeks ago that that plea deal that you mentioned with hunter biden fell apart in a very dramatic fashion inside the courtroom. Hunter biden thought he was going to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax fraud charges. He thought there would be a separate diversion case for a gun charge. That also impart raised a lot of questions about whether this independence that we are now talking about existed. So, that is what we are doing here today talking about this special counsel. But you are right that it is very likely that the white house will say nothing and say that they are absolutely independent of the doj. The president has said before the same thing that he supports all of the work that attorney general garland is doing and he will not be commenting. One thing he has said, margaret, with regard to his son, hunter biden, he is very proud of his son. He said that after we first found out about the plea deal. He said that through the white house after that plea deal fell apart. So, we expect to hear more of the same. But one thing that is important that has changed since then is what we have also been hearing out of capitol hill, right? There are also oversight investigations going on, one of hunter biden’s former business partners has come out and testified that president biden while he was vice president was actually on various phone calls in which hunter biden was stealing business overseas. And so, that raises so many more questions, margaret, about what the president knew, whether he knew it and if he was involved which, he himself has said he knew nothing about the business deals and certainly never involved. But i think today you are seeing a commitment as garland pointed out to get into the bottom of all of those questions.

Weijia: That is right and there are things that can be the former attorney general bill barr said on “face the nation” last sunday, things can be shameful without a legal pair of those political questions in congress separate what we heard today from the attorney general specific to this case involving that federal investigation that has been ongoing through the U.S. Attorney’s office in delaware for five years, and extraordinary long period of time and ultimately leading us to as you laid out there, weijia, july plea deal that dramatically fell apart. I know when that court room that day was cbs’s catherine herridge who is with us now. I understand from the justice department has been speaking to sources there.

Catherine this is tremendous turn of events but what have you learned about how this will work?

Margaret, it is good to be with you and extraordinary turn of events when you consider the timeline. As you mentioned a few weeks ago at the end of july, there was an effort by both the prosecutors and hunter biden’s defense team to wrap up this year’s long kitties with a bowl until that plea agreement collapsed. The judge deferred the decision whether to accept or reject it. What we learned at the news conference just a few minutes ago from the attorney general’s earlier this week on tuesday, the U.S. Attorney david weiss leading this investigation approached him and said, “he felt the investigation reached the stage and he needed to continue his work with special counsel status. What does that mean in the short term? What it means is that mr. Weiss will deliver a report to the nation about his decision-making in the hunter biden case whether he chooses to bring charges or declines to bring charges. That will involve congressional testimony. A federal prosecutor that i spoke to before this event so to me the appointment of a special counsel would have the effect of delaying a resolution on the hunter biden matter in his opinion. And it would certainly delay any anticipated testimony from the U.S. Attorney in delaware to republicans on capitol hill who have been seeking that testimony for several months. So, it is an extraordinary development, considering where the two parties work two weeks ago to wrap up this year’s longs case and out to the appointment of special counsel that will have these broad authorities most importantly to continue this ongoing investigation, margaret.

Catherine it is interesting given it was june 7th the U.S. Attorney said he had ultimate authority and then come again said to congress that he felt he had that. And now this tuesday says I need some independence to go further into this investigation. As we just heard from the attorney general merrick garland, the investigation is ongoing. We will have more coverage of these legal issues as well as the political impact because as catherine just laid out come at the timeline for this seems to be dragging on and as of today, we are 451 days away from a presidential election. This extraordinary news about the president’s son and how the biden federal government will continue its investigation into him. I want to leave you with a special report on that note and tell you to please stay tuned to cbs news, your local news, and of course, the cbs evening news tonight for further coverage. This has been a “cbs special report.” I’m margaret brennan, thank you all for watching. What can you do with sensitive skin?

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue. What can you do with sensitive skin?

Audra: Well, I feel fortunate to be able to learn and grow so much at newman media. I’m very pleased with my work so far and I hope you are as well. But you know, I don’t think the idea of the merger is necessarily a bad one.

Nikki: Really?

Audra: Well, there’s gonna be a lot of overlap between adam’s new company and newman media. You know, redundancies.

Nikki: Yes, we are aware of that.

Audra: And I just hope that I’m not one of those redundancies.

Nikki: Ah. Now, we’re getting somewhere.

Audra: Yes, I– I do have an agenda. Bringing this to your attention. You know, I’m looking out for newman media’s bottom line and I just hope I can remain on board so I can continue to do so.

Nikki: You know, I’m just curious. Where are you getting this information?

Audra: I’ve done my due diligence.

Nikki: So, you didn’t get the idea about this merger from nate?

Audra: Uh, no. Nate and i haven’t– we haven’t discussed adam’s new venture. Um, I had perceptions about the situation on my own.

Nikki: I see. Well, it’s an interesting idea, but victor is opposed, as is victoria, as am I, so that should be your answer. Please don’t bring it up again.

Phyllis: You’re done? What does that mean?

Summer: We’re done with all the betrayal and the disillusionment. Look, I really am happy that you’re not going to prison. I am. And I hope that you mean it when you say that you’ve learned a big lesson from this whole thing.

Phyllis: No, no, no. Okay, I mean it. I do mean it. I am going to change, I really mean that.

Summer: Maybe when that happens, I’ll be in a better place to reconnect, but you’re first gonna have to prove to me that you actually can change.

Phyllis: Okay. Hey, do you feel this way too?

Daniel: We were this close to reconciling, but you know, then the lies kept coming and then the tricks to hide the lies. Then, we find out that you’re colluding with tucker and with adam?

Phyllis: Okay, okay, wait a second. Wait a second. The thing with tucker, he forced my hand with carson. He forced my hand and I needed adam to get from out of tucker’s thumb.

Daniel: Now, you’re tied to adam because of that decision.

Lauren: You know, your mother is gonna figure all of that out now that the threat of prison is gone.

Daniel: Oh, come on, lauren. Really? You think things are gonna change? Nothing ever changes with her.

Summer: I still don’t believe that carson’s testimony was legitimate. I– I think that tucker paid him to say whatever you needed him to say.

Phyllis: Are you kidding me? That was true! Carson saw what happened through the motel window. That was true.

Summer: I wish that I could believe you. It’s just a little too convenient, mom.

Phyllis: All right, all right. Let’s– let’s– we’re getting off track here, okay? Let’s just go back. Who cares about carson? Carson is a non-issue. Hey, the charges were dropped.

Summer: No. You’re right. Carson’s not the issue here. It’s the fact that you lied to us and you manipulated us continuously.

Daniel: And you kept pushing us away. All we wanted to do was try to help you. You just wanted to do everything the way you wanted to do it.

Summer: And you think that some champagne and some cake is gonna make everything better? I mean, you’re really that out of touch.

What makes a medicare

supplement insurance plan,

Phyllis: I’m not pretending that this healing process is gonna be easy and if I have to prove to you that I can change before we move forward, fine, I’ll do that. I’m up for the challenge.

Lauren: You know, you two can really meet your mom halfway. Keep an open mind and an open heart.

Phyllis: Yeah because everything that I’ve done, I’ve done for you. To protect you and support you and protect our family. Don’t forget that, so please, can we not just do this together?

Summer: Are you forgetting the fact that you destroyed my life as I knew it? I lost my marriage, mom! Harrison! Because of you!

Daniel: We haven’t forgot what you were willing to let us suffer through that all started with the gala, even if you have.

Phyllis: I saw what I did to you and I want to fix it.

Daniel: But you don’T. You never do. You just keeping making the same stupid mistakes over and over and over again. It– it’s gonna take more this time for us to believe you. Much, much more.

Phyllis: Okay, then just tell me what I need to do. I’ll write a list. Just tell me what I need to do to fix this.

Daniel: You’re gonna have to figure that out on your own.

Summer: Goodbye, mom.

Nikki: Nate, I just had a very interesting conversation with audra.

Nate: Oh, yes. I was surprised to hear she reached out to you. I hope she didn’t waste your time.

Nikki: She seems to think that this merger with adam’s company is a good idea as well, but she denied discussing it with you. And frankly, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the two of you feel the same way.

Nate: I wasn’t aware of how audra felt. She and I haven’t spoken about it.

Nikki: You’re playing a very interesting game, my friend. I don’t advise continuing.

Nate: I can assure you, there’s nothing underhanded going on here, nikki. And per victoria, this is now a dead issue.

Nikki: Oh?

Nate: I told her and I will tell you as well: I won’t bring it up again.

Adam: Well, we can have nick weigh in on the, uh, office space options once he gets back from his trip. You two can be the, uh, final decision on that.

Sharon: Don’t try to distract me. What’s going on between you and audra? Why did you feel the need to speak to her?

[ Adam sighing ]

Adam: I was scoping out the competition.

Sharon: If you’re planning some sneaky move against newman media after everything that has happened, I am warning you–

Adam: Sharon.

Sharon: Stop, right now.

Adam: You’re blowing this out of proportion. It was one conversation.

Sharon: Don’t belittle my concerns. We are on the verge of something great here, adam. I’ll be damned if I let your vendetta against your sister mess this up.

[ Daniel sighing ]

Summer: I mean, I hate the fact that mom turned to adam as soon as there was a new threat in her life.

Daniel: Mm. Totally gonna lead to more trouble. How long do you think it’s gonna be before she needs our help again?

Summer: How long can you hold out?

[ Daniel chuckling ]

Daniel: I can hold out as long as you can.

Summer: I’m telling you, daniel, I’ve changed. I’m not bitter, but I’m not naive anymore to what mom is capable of and I am done with her bs.

Daniel: Good. I don’t blame you.

Summer: Call me selfish, but I need to do this. I need to focus on my own life. I need to move forward and I’m not gonna let anybody, least of all, mom, stop me from doing that.

Phyllis: That was fun.

Lauren: Ah.

Phyllis: Not what I expected, but fun nonetheless.

Lauren: You know what?

Phyllis: Mm.

Lauren: Enough of this pity party. Despite the fallout, you deserve a toast. Come on, get your glass. To you. And not because of what happened to you and that you made it to the other side, but because of what can happen when you put your mind to it.

Phyllis: Thank you. I will win back the love and respect of my kids, I’m sure.

Lauren: It is not that they don’t love you. They are putting you to the test because they love you so much.

Phyllis: Well, that was harsh.

Lauren: Yes. And they are pushing you hard because they know, deep down, you have to ability to change.

Phyllis: Thank you.

[ Lauren chuckling ] You’re a great friend, you know that? You are an incredible friend to me. I am eternally grateful.

Lauren: And here is to a magnificent new journey. Buckle up, my friend. Now, cake.

[ Both chuckling ]

Adam: Your concerns are unwarranted. I don’t have any intention of doing any harm to our company before it even gets off the ground.

Sharon: I have a bad feeling about this, adam. I don’t like it.

Adam: My only focus right now on our new endeavor is to make it as solid and as great as it possibly can be.

Sharon: And would that perhaps involve sabotaging the competition in some underhanded manner?

Adam: Look, you know what your problem is? You worry too much. I’ll see you later, okay?

Nikki: Did you speak to nate about the merger?

Victoria: I did. I told him that I changed my mind and that I would no longer consider it and he accepted that and we’ve moved on. So, what did audra want?

Nikki: She pitched the merger idea to me. I mean, it could’ve been nate speaking, it was so similar. My gut tells me that those two are up to something together.

Audra: Hey.

Nate: What did you say to nikki?

Audra: I pitched her the idea.

Nate: I told you I would handle nikki and victoria in my own way.

Audra: Okay, I don’t have the luxury of time. Adam exerted more pressure on me.

Nate: Okay, well whatever you said, nikki’s alarm bells are going off. She doesn’t trust either of us. The merger is not happening.

Audra: Then, I– I’m screwed. Adam’s got me. And I’ll just lose everything.

Announcer: Next week on the young and the restless…

Sally: Oh. Happy housewarming.

Nikki: We have bigger problems.

Victor: What do you mean bigger problems?

Nikki: They’re names are nate and audra.

Abby: You do look a little anxious.

Ashley: Maybe, but that’s silly, right? This isn’t my first wedding.

Abby: Mom, you don’t have to go through with this if you’re not ready.

[ Daniel sighing ]

Daniel: Lucy?

Lucy: Hi, dad.

Daniel: Hey!

Lucy: Best surprise ever?

Daniel: Uh, yeah. Best since the last time you– what are you doing here?

Lucy: Well, mom is working on phyllis’ case and I just finished camp, so instead of going back to lisbon, I–

Daniel: Came to visit your old man. Oh, okay. Was this your idea or your mother’s?

Lucy: Well, of course I wanted to see you.

Daniel: And?

Lucy: And maybe mom’s a little worried about you. I mean, just because of phyllis and everything else.

Daniel: I’m fine. I promise, I’m fine. Look, but I love having you here. You guys could have told me that you were coming, you or your mom.

Lucy: And ruin the big surprise? I mean, you should’ve seen your face. Those big eyes and goofy smile?

Daniel: Oh, ha, ha, ha. Well, just for your information, you inherited that same smile.

Lucy: Okay, but I– I make it cool.

Daniel: You do make it cool. What do you wanna do? You wanna go grab one of those frozen mocha ice drinks over at the coffee house? You wanna get some food?

Lucy: Whatever you want. This trip’s all about you.

Daniel: So, you are checking up on me.

Lucy: And I’m bringing my coolness to brighten your day.

Daniel: It does brighten my day. Now look, I’m gonna– I’m gonna say this again. I’m fine.

Lucy: Fine. Then, we’ll just have fun. Maybe mom will need some support because she’s stuck between christine and phyllis. There’s gonna be a trial soon, right?

Daniel: Oh, it’s, uh, it’s looking that way.

Lucy: Mom’s the best at this stuff, right?

Daniel: Yup. Heather’s a great attorney, but you know, your grandmother, she–

Lucy: Gets in her own way all the time. That’s what you always say.

Daniel: Yeah, she really does.

Lucy: What about aunt summer? How’s she doing with all this?

Daniel: Well, I worry about summer. She’s already lost so much, I don’t wanna see her lose anything else.

Chance: Well, look at that.

Summer: Chance, hi.

Chance: Hey.

Summer: What’s going on?

Chance: Oh, no, just in the gym, you know. Been thinking about this case for the longest time and needed to clear my head a little bit.

Summer: Does that usually work for you?

Chance: Yeah, yeah. Doesn’t hurt. What’s, uh, what’s up with you? Kind of seem like one big ball of nerves.

Summer: Uh, no. Nothing’s going on.

Chance: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hey, hey, hey. I don’t wanna push or cross any lines or anything, but I hope you know you can talk to me. You can trust me. I mean, who’s more trustworthy than me?

Summer: You? The cop who arrested my mom?

Chance: Well, you’re not gonna hold that against me now, are ya? I thought we were friends.

Summer: I would really like to talk to you about all of this, but I– I don’t even know how to explain it. All I’ll say is, um, everything’s changed.

Heather: Phyllis, stop talking until we have a chance to discuss this in private.

Phyllis: I’ve never been more serious. I mean it, christine. I will plead guilty to all the charges to avoid trial. I need something from you in return in writing.

Christine: I’m listening.

Phyllis: I need you to confirm that you will not try to prosecute my kids. Summer and daniel are not guilty of anything. They did nothing wrong. They shouldn’t be punished, please. In writing, you will not prosecute them. The only thing they’re guilty of is trying to help their mom, that’s it.

Christine: Okay, I will guarantee no prosecution for daniel or summer.

Phyllis: Good. Can we get in front of a judge now? Today?

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Chance: All right. Hit me. What has changed?

Summer: I got into a fight with my mom.

Chance: Well, that’s not very surprising. You’ve been doing that a lot lately, right?

Summer: This time was different.

Chance: How?

Summer: You know what? It’s not worth going into. All you need to know is that my eyes are finally open. Now, I’m on the precipice of something, you know? Like, I could just step off and I would enter this whole other dimension or– or it’s like, I’ve experienced this personal earthquake and everything has shifted. Like, my life could be going in a whole different direction. Okay, I’m not explaining this well. You know what it is? Do you know the feeling that you get when you’re on a really big rollercoaster and you get to the top and you have that feeling in the pit of your stomach and you’re really nervous and you’re scared, but there’s also this acceptance because you’re there? And there’s no turning back, no matter how scared you are.

Chance: Okay, so you feel like you’re on a rollercoaster?

Summer: Yeah. I mean, I’m letting go of my mom. I love her. Obviously, I love her. She’s my mom, but… she’s in charge of her own fate. I can’t control her and I can’t change her.

Chance: What about kyle?

Summer: There’s no going back. So, I’ve gotta move forward, right? And I just– I have this weird… energy, you know? I don’t– I don’t know what it is. I don’t know what it is. Maybe… maybe it’s me letting go of all this crap that I’ve been putting up with for the last few months, you know? Maybe this is what liberation feels like.

Christine: Thank you, your honor, for seeing us on such short notice.

Heather: Please take a beat and think about this.

Judge: Is the defendant going against counsel’s advice?

Phyllis: Yes, I am, your honor. I am going against counsel’s advice and I– I know exactly what I’m doing and why.

Judge: Have a seat. Okay. I understand that you want to change your plea. You’re now pleading guilty to all charges against you.

Phyllis: Yes. I plead guilty to all charges against me. I don’t want this going to trial. I want this to be over. I know exactly what I’m doing. I want my kids to be safe, but I– I just ask– I ask that you hear how I ended up here in front of you, begging for mercy.

Judge: Very well, ms. Summers. District attorney has submitted a, uh, sentencing recommendation. I don’t have to accept it. What would you like me to know before I make my decision? Postmenopausal women with hr+ her2-

Phyllis: I was terrified of jeremy stark. You know who he is. He did horrible things. He– he served time in prison.

Christine: So had you.

Phyllis: Um… diane jenkins’ testimony, that’s– that’s how I landed in prison. And so, he hated her, obviously. Um, he knew that I hated her as well, so he had this idea that I would fake my death and we would frame diane for it. Duplication of something diane had done herself many, many years ago.

Judge: And you went along with it?

Phyllis: Yeah, for revenge, at the time. I just didn’t understand how– how everybody gave diane jenkins a free pass and no one did the same for me. I’ve never been given a free pass for anything in my life. So, my kids had already left me, um, and I– I felt lost and jeremy saw that and he preyed upon that. The way that I felt, he manipulated it, my isolation, but there was a real undercurrent of a threat the whole time.

Judge: Against you?

Phyllis: Against me. Um… but mainly against my kids at the time that if I didn’t go along with the plan, that maybe he would do something to them.

Judge: But you married him before this plan went into effect, is that correct?

Phyllis: Yes, but that was one of his stipulations, that I marry him, and at the time, it doesn’t even matter because I’d be dead anyway, so I know it’s crazy. I know– I under– it– it– huh. His idea seemed like the answer.

Judge: And after you were legally married?

Phyllis: That’s when everything went into overdrive. I mean, what the– the gala, the poisoning. He had everything planned out. The ambulance crash. Everything was set up. All the clues to indicate that diane jenkins was guilty.

Judge: And you also intended.

Phyllis: But at this point, I, um… I was just trying to protect my family, if that makes sense to you. My kids had a memorial for me. I went to it and I hid in the back. My kids were in so much pain and I realized I caused that. I caused their pain. My daughter went from numb to anguish to fury. My son had such unbridled rage towards jeremy stark.

[ Phyllis sighing ] I did that to them. That’s when things changed to me. I couldn’t bear living the rest of my life without my children. So, I wanted out, but jeremy wasn’t gonna let me out. No. So, now he started overtly threatening my children and he took a life insurance policy, named himself as the beneficiary. Oh, and then he changed the plan.

Judge: In what way did he change the plan?

Phyllis: First, he was just gonna help me disappear and then he changed the plan. That we’d be together forever and we’d be connected in some deserted island somewhere. That we’d be a married couple and everything that that entails and I refused. And that’s when he said he’d kill me and he attacked me… and I defended myself.

Judge: This is the attack that was witnessed by mr. Carson?

Phyllis: I didn’t know that he saw it, but I guess he was looking through but I killed him before he killed me. I did that. I stabbed him. I killed him. It haunts me. I wake up at night and I see his face and I hear his voice and I feel his hands on my neck.

[ Phyllis sighing ] But I killed him. I took a man’s life and I can’t take it back. In a split second, I made that decision. I took his life. I did that and I take full responsibility for doing that. I truly do. Please… I ask you… that you understand the coercion and that I was a victim of it and that I was in terror in the hands of a man who was my captor. I am begging you. I am begging you for mercy, please.

[ Phyllis sobbing ]

Judge: Madam district attorney, anything you’d like to say?

[ Christine sighing ]

Christine: While I appreciate ms. Summers coming forward to tell us the details of what happened, expressing remorse for her role in deceiving an entire community, for framing an innocent woman and taking the life of a man, laws were broken and we cannot forget that.

Judge: Having heard ms. Summers account of her own ordeal, do you feel any differently about the sentencing recommendation?

Christine: I do not, your honor. While ms. Summers’ guilty plea does save the state time and cost of a trial, foregoing the right to one was her choice, and while a lighter sentence may be in order, it has to be in keeping with the severity with the crimes that were committed.

Judge: Counselor?

Heather: My client has shown great character speaking here today. That said, I am not surprised that the district attorney would continue to argue for a significant sentence. Her history with ms. Summers is, uh, well known.

Christine: Ms. Stevens knows full well that I would never let my personal feelings get in the way of the duties of my office. Your honor, consider we have no corroboration of the facts ms. Summers confessed beyond mr. Carson’s statement. That he witnessed mr. Stark attacking her. And mr. Carson isn’t even a reliable witness. He lied to authorities more than once and we have no proof that stark threatened her children and we can’t interview a dead man. My position on this is based on facts and ms. Stevens is out of line to suggest otherwise.

Daniel: Hey, mariah.

Mariah: Sh. It’s nap time.

Daniel: Sorry. And I– I remember those days well, even though they seem like they were a long time ago. Have you met my daughter, lucy?

Mariah: No. Hi! It’s so nice to meet you. You’re here visiting your dad and, oh, your mom. That’s perfect.

Lucy: Yup. Have both of them in the same place for once. Um, my flight’s one way for now. Departure tbd.

Daniel: Mm.

Mariah: You are a very lucky man, daniel.

Daniel: Yes, I am. This one here thought she better come and check on me.

Lucy: Well, when we text and call, he’s always like, “I’m fine. Everything’s fine. No need to worry.” But, I just wanted to come and check for myself.

Mariah: Well, your dad does have a lot on his plate right now, so you’re very sweet to check on him.

Daniel: Guys, I am– I’m fine. I am. Okay, maybe I’m not totally fine. Maybe this is a weird time for me. Everything that’s happened with my mother and you know, trying to get a new career of the ground with the omegasphere and trying to be a better father. I am. You know, a better father and a better man ’cause that’s what lucy deserves and that’s what lily and– and summer deserve, but it’s a process.

Mariah: Yeah, I– I totally get it.

Daniel: Distancing myself from the people I care about when things get tough, it’s kind of what I do, but I’m working on it. I am. I genuinely would like to be the kind of person that steps up rather than stepping back and just letting whatever’s gonna happen happen. Watching people that you love and you care about do damage to themselves and do damage to their relationships ’cause they just keep making the same stupid choices over and over again? I don’t think I have the time or the energy for that anymore. I don’t know if I ever will.

Chance: Liberation? Yeah. I– I guess you could be there. I don’t know. I feel like you still have a lot to process.

Summer: Okay, if it’s not liberation, what is it? What am I feeling?

Chance: Adrenaline? Coming off a big fight with your mom. I don’t know.

Summer: Maybe. Maybe. It could be adrenaline, but I don’t know. I feel… reckless, maybe.

Chance: All right.

Summer: I don’t know, chance. This feeling… it feels good. Like I have the old summer back.

Chance: The old summer?

Summer: I feel like I need to do something. I need to do something to get this energy out so that I could actually, potentially, refocus.

Chance: What’d you have in mind?

Summer: Maybe I need to find an actual rollercoaster?

Chance: Oh. Oh, wow. Didn’t expect that.

Summer: Think about it, though. Think about it. You’re up there really high and you can see for miles. I mean, there’s gotta be some clarity that comes from that, right?

Chance: Mm.

Summer: And then the wind hits your face and your stomach drops and it feels like anything could happen next and you just… go with it because you don’t have another choice. Come with me.

Judge: Ms. Summers, what do you think is a fair and appropriate sentence given the charges against you.

Phyllis: That, um… I think if I answered that, that would be very self-serving.

Judge: I’d still like to hear it.

Phyllis: Well, I feel like I’ve already paid a price for what I’ve done. I lost, uh, people I love. I’ve lost their respect, I’ve lost their trust. I’ve seen what my actions have done to my kids, my daughter in particular, what it has cost her. I’d like the opportunity to make that right.

Judge: And how would you do that?

Phyllis: Well, if I’m in a jail cell, I can’t do that. What I’m asking for is a chance to make amends. I desperately want to be a better mother. I want to be a better person. Judge, I have learned my lesson. I am asking you, I am begging you, please, please give me the opportunity to change, please.

Christine: Your honor, if I might add something–

Judge: I’ve heard enough, mrs. Williams. I’ll make my ruling shortly. I’m jonathan lawson With cirkul, your water is deliciously flavored at the turn of a dial, with zero sugar and zero calories. Announcer: The young and the restless will continue. What can you do with sensitive skin?

Chance: You know what? I think a rollercoaster is exactly what you need right now. Unfortunately, I can’t come with you.

Summer: Oh, I see. You don’t want me to see how scared you get.

Chance: Uh, no. That’s not it. I’m not scared. Okay? I’m not. I got a couple of reports on my desk that are due soon, so I gotta go get that done.

Summer: I think I need to do this. I think I need to ride an actual rollercoaster.

Chance: Yeah.

Summer: Are you sure that you don’t wanna come with me? I promise you I will not tell a single soul that you shut your eyes and held on for dear life.

Chance: You know what? I’m gonna show you just how brave I am, just not today, all right? Rain check. Well, I’m sure I’m gonna see you very soon, so tell me how this goes, okay?

Summer: Okay.

Chance: Okay.

Summer: Bye.

Chance: Hey, summer. Rooting for you.

Mariah: Got it.

Daniel: Got what?

Mariah: Well, I got what you said. About watching the people you love making bad decisions because daniel romalotti is such a saint and everybody else needs to step up their game.

Daniel: That is exactly what I meant. You know, uh, mariah here is really good friends with kyle and with kevin.

Lucy: Your bestie.

Daniel: My bestie.

Lucy: So, you know my aunt summer?

Mariah: Yeah, we go way back.

Lucy: Not a fan?

Mariah: Uh, not to be mean about it, uh, but… team kyle forever.

Daniel: Hm. Right. So maybe you’re just a little biased about me.

Mariah: That’s fair, but how does that relate to you being quick to pass judgement on others?

Daniel: I’m not judgmental. Oh, come on. Maybe a little bit. Maybe a little judgmental.

Lucy: Mom says that when we have been kind of a mess and then we pull ourselves together that we expect others to be able to do it too and then, when they can’t, we don’t understand why.

Mariah: Well, perfectionists, and I don’t know if this applies to you, daniel, but they don’t just expect perfection out of themselves. They expect it out of other people too. Does any of that ring true?

Daniel: You know, if I wanted therapy, I’d, uh, head on over to the coffee house and talk to sharon.

[ Mariah laughing ]

Mariah: All right, all right. That’s fair.

[ Mariah chuckling ] You know, when I– when I look at aria, reminded about how miraculously unique each of us are. Now, I have my own path, my own pace. So do you. So does lucy. And so does aria. I’ll be out in the park like this or at the grocery store and other moms will ask me about the milestones and there’s this sort of unspoken competition going on. But what I do know is that aria, she’s just simply aria. She’s going to do exactly what she needs to do, exactly when she needs to do it and it’s not up to me. She’s got her own timeline. It’s not up to tessa. I feel like people change if and when they want to and change can be… extraordinarily difficult. Take an extraordinarily long time. I mean, I know that first hand. But the people we love, I don’t know, I feel like we need to give them the space and the trust to make all of those changes that they need to.

Phyllis: So, what do you think? Do you think the judge believed me?

Heather: I still don’t love that you came to this decision, changed your plea without consulting me. However, I’m impressed. I think you did the right thing and I believe that you’re sincere about wanting to change.

Phyllis: Well, can you tell my kids that?

[ Phyllis chuckling ] Summer thinks that everything that comes out of my mouth is a lie. I think that’s really the main reason I wanted to plead guilty. I wanted… to show my daughter that, um, I’m ready to face the consequences of my actions.

Heather: Summer will come around.

Phyllis: Daniel? I know he’s ashamed of me. That’s what he said. They always have been and always will be the best part of me. My kids. I wanna earn back their trust starting now. Known as a loving parent.

Heather: I know you know that you screwed up. I mean, there were probably a thousand ways you could’ve dealt with the hurt and the loneliness you were feeling, but you chose the absolute worse. But now, you’re back to your senses. The thing is, I saw it with daniel. You know, he pushed us away and he went down this, uh, terrible, dark hole, but when he came out, he realized what he’d done and what he lost.

Phyllis: So, you’re saying that there’s hope for me and my kids?

[ Phyllis chuckling ]

Heather: You’ve proven to yourself that you’re capable of doing the right thing. It feels good, doesn’t it? Really, really good. I hope you never forget what this feels like.

Phyllis: Uh, no, I won’T. I can’T.

[ Christine sighing ]

Chance: Madam D.A., What’s the latest?

Christine: Phyllis just went in front of a judge and plead guilty on all charges. Now, I’m just waiting to see if the judge takes my sentencing recommendation or if she throws it out and does her own thing.

Chance: Hm. Do you really think they’re just gonna let her walk?

Christine: I hope not. Heather accused me of going after phyllis as if I have a vendetta.

Chance: I mean, you two do have a history, but I’m sure you were nothing but fair, as always.

Christine: Of course I was. I mean, you know this case. It’s been very unnerving. And then, I– I just left the courthouse and I… I noticed that I had a voicemail from paul.

Chance: Oh, yeah? Is he still in portugal?

Christine: Yeah, he wants us to talk.

Chance: All right. When’s he coming back?

Christine: Not here. He wants me to go to lisbon.

Chance: Oh. Right in the middle of a case?

Christine: Chance, look I need to make time for this once phyllis is sentenced. He, um… he wants to talk about our future and I have to say, his tone didn’t sound very positive.

Chance: Hm. Well, I guess the question I have for you is how do you want all of this to end?

Christine: My marriage?

Chance: No. Phyllis.

Christine: I’m torn. I want her to have to pay for her crimes for once and not out of vengeance. Because it’s what’s right. It’s what I stand for as the D.A.

[ Christine sighing ] But at the same time, I– I do want what’s best for phyllis’ kids, you know? What would make it easiest for them to just move forward.

[ Christine sighing ] The judge has made a decision.

Heather: Judge is ready. Time to go. Come on, phyllis. You’ve made it this far. It’s time to see it through.

Phyllis: Yeah, my– my kids will know I did whatever it takes. That’s all that matters. Want luxury hair repair that doesn’t cost $50?

Mariah: Well, I should be getting this one home because she does not like to miss a meal.

Daniel: Yeah, this one’s like her old man. Gets really hangry if I don’t feed her, so.

Lucy: Well, I mean, that was the deal.

Daniel: Mm-hmm.

Mariah: Look, daniel. I– I really do hope everything works out with phyllis. Uh, I’m new to the whole mother/child relationship thing, but I do know how special moms are. I know mine is and I would do anything to make sure she was safe and I hope aria feels the same way about me one day.

Daniel: Well, thanks for the talk.

Mariah: Well, I will leave you guys, but lucy, it was very nice meeting you.

Lucy: Yeah, you too.

Mariah: Bye. See you guys soon.

Daniel: Bye.

Lucy: Hey, dad. Do you think you could take me to go see phyllis right now?

Daniel: Look, I know that you love her and you want to support her. I think we need to hold off for a while. You okay with that?

Lucy: But I’ll still get to see her, right? At some point?

Daniel: Yeah, you will.

Judge: Take a seat.

[ Sighing ] Ms. Summers, I’ve listened carefully to your story. I’ve heard how you were influenced by jeremy stark, how you were coerced by a dangerous criminal to commit to the series of crimes. The facts of the case are that you went to great lengths to commit fraud. To make it appear as if you’d died. You framed an innocent party, made your children accomplices to your crimes, and ultimately, killed a man when you felt the walls closing in. Mr. Stark was a dangerous criminal. He had a serious criminal record, so it’s reasonable to believe that you feared for your life. Furthermore, there were no witnesses to contradict your story. The only witness to come forward is mr. Carson, who confirmed your story that you acted in self-defense. I have taken into account his written statement. I’m going to reject your recommendation, mrs. Williams. Ms. Summers, I’m sentencing you to six months community service and a year of probation. Be anything but a model citizen during that year and I will see you back here immediately and I will not be as forgiving as I am today.

Phyllis: I understand, your honor. Thank you. Thank you.

Judge: Thank you, ms. Stevens. Mrs. Williams. Ms. Summers, you are free to go.

[ Christine sighing ]

Christine: You have been given a gift. Don’t squander it.

Phyllis: I won’T.

[ Phyllis sighing ]

Heather: It’s over, phyllis.

Phyllis: Oh, not yet.

Audra: Um, hey, just wanted to see if there were any updates? Um, how are things going? Did you push the idea to victoria?

Nate: I’m going in now, so you can ease up.

Audra: Look, I apologize for being so pushy when my future is on the line.

Nate: Look, let me handle this my own way. I’m proposing this idea because it’s a good move. That it gets you out of a jam is added benefit.

Audra: Look, it’s more than a jam. Adam could destroy my career if he lets out that tucker and i covered up a mccall scandal.

[ Sighing ] Look, I– I need to keep him happy.

Nate: Just give me some time.

Audra: All right, I gotta go. Keep me posted.

Adam: I hope you have some good news for me.

Audra: Sure, adam, have a seat.

Adam: Have you heard from victor? Have you reached out? Told him it’s a smart idea to merge newman media with adustus?

Audra: That’s pending.

Adam: That sounds more like stalling. Look, I want this handled and over with by the time nick, sharon and I officially launch the new company.

Audra: Trust me. I have a two-stage plan in the works.

Nikki: Oh, I heard from your father this morning. Things are progressing overseas.

Victoria: That’s good. I’m glad to hear that.

[ Knocking on door ] Come in.

Nate: Good morning, ladies. I am happy to see you both in one place.

Nikki: Oh, why is that?

Nate: There’s something I wanted to run by you.

Victoria: Oh, good. Well, have a seat.

Nate: I’ve been looking over the proposal of the adustus/kirsten launch. All the components of a restructured company.

Victoria: Yes, the official unveiling is on track to happen very soon.

Nate: I did a deep dive into some numbers last night. I think adam is correct in thinking that newman media and his new company with nick and sharon will be redundant in our new corporate scenario.

Nikki: Well, victor doesn’t see it that way.

Nate: I suspect that was just his initial reaction to a suggestion made by adam, whom we all know has wanted newman media for some time now. But… I think we should look into this. If we were to fold the two companies together, we’d have a powerhouse media company that would be unrivaled.

Victoria: Where is this coming from?

Nikki: Are you actually suggesting defying victor in this way? What has gotten into you?

Diane: Ah, abby! Good to see you.

Abby: You too.

Diane: Um, jack was showing me some videos of dom’s swimming lessons. He’s adorable.

Jack: Yeah, he’ll be keeping up with harrison in no time.

Abby: Yes, he’d love that. Um… you know, I came by first thing this morning because I spoke to my mom and she’s willing to meet with you and hopes to come to a detente, brokered by me.

Jack: As I told you, I’m willing to try.

Abby: Okay, but, for this meeting to work, it has to be just you, me and my mom. No one else.

Billy: Thank you for coming by to meet me–

Ashley: Sure.

Billy: Here at the office.

Ashley: I was kind of shocked that we were still allowed in the building.

Tucker: Speak for yourself. I never was.

Billy: So, I’m just gonna cut to the chase here. Um, I’ve considered your offer to work from the inside to help push diane to failure here at jabot.

Ashley: Mm-hmm. You would just be speeding along her inevitable fall and hopefully opening up jack’s eyes in the process.

Billy: True, but it will weaken jabot even if it is temporary. And for what, the two of you to take over?

Tucker: Mm-hmm. So, where do you stand? Can we count you in?

Billy: I have one question: What’s in it for me? With the freestyle libre 2 system.

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Ashley: We figured you’d wanna know how you were gonna be getting repaid.

Billy: It’s a fair question, ash.

Ashley: Well, here’s my answer. Simply ashley will be a huge success.

Billy: Well, that’s good for you. And how does that benefit me?

Ashley: Diane will definitely weaken jabot.

Billy: With my discreet help.

Tucker: At which point, ashley and I will take over.

Ashley: It’s the only way to save our father’s company.

Billy: And by the same token, save jack from himself?

Ashley: Thank you. Hopefully. Tucker and I have talked about this, and it’s, uh, stupid and short-sighted to fold jabot into our company because of its extensive branding and history, so jabot will remain its own separate entity.

Tucker: Under the simply ashley umbrella.

Billy: Keeping jabot’s integrity intact is the number one thing here, but again… what is my payout?

Ashley: You’re gonna run jabot.

Tucker: ‘Cause you’d have to report to us.

Ashley: Our father’s company will be under your command, billy. And you won’t be under jack’s shadow anymore.

Tucker: It’ll be billy abbott, finally where he belongs. In charge.

Ashley: Come on, this is a huge opportunity. And our father would be so incredibly proud of you. What you’re willing to do to protect his legacy.

Billy: Well, I’m intrigued.

Ashley: Yeah, I kind of thought you might be.

Tucker: This is all contingent, though, on you coming through for us.

Ashley: Right. You’ve gotta give diane that gentle push to do what she does best.

Billy: I understand all that. Did it occur to you to come with this generous offer when all of this started?

Ashley: What’s the difference? We knew that we would get here eventually.

[ Billy chuckling ]

Billy: Nothing if not predictable, huh?

Tucker: Aren’t we all?

Ashley: Anyway, tucker and I have to go. We have a meeting with jack, actually.

Billy: Oh?

Ashley: Yeah. Abby’s trying to broker a truce. And knowing that you are on our side will change… my approach, so…

Billy: Well…

[ Clearing throat ] This is about protecting our family legacy, right?

[ Sighing ] I’m in.

Ashley: Yes. Yay.

[ Laughing ] You’re not gonna regret this. It’s all good. I’ll take to you soon.

Billy: Okay.

Ashley: Congratulations.

[ Billy exhaling ]

Jack: Even you seem to think the detente can only exist if diane is excluded.

Abby: It’s just for the meeting.

Jack: That is not going to happen. Ashley’s disdain for diane is the core reason for this war. That and her dangerous and absurd relationship with tucker mccall.

Abby: Well, she feels the same way about your marriage to diane.

Jack: Any achievable peace hinges on ashley’s ability to accept diane.

Abby: Uncle jack, I am just stating the obvious here, okay? If my mom walks in, her back will go completely up she sees that diane is part of the conversation.

Jack: Ashley.

Abby: Then, the whole thing is gonna be over before it even started.

Diane: I have to agree with abby. The only chance you have at having a peaceful conversation with ashley is if I’m excluded. My presence is only going to keep you from achieving that.

Jack: We are married now. You are part of my life forever. Ashley has to realize that’s not going to change.

Diane: I know. And I love you for always standing up for me, but there’s something else you need to consider.

Jack: And what is that?

[ Diane sighing ]

Diane: If you want peace with ashley, then this has to be a two-way street. If you want her to consider a truce with you, then you have to consider that tucker is a part of her life. Are you willing to do that?

[ Jack sighing ]

Nate: I do not wish to second guess your husband, nikki, but my instincts say this is a smart move. I believe it’s also wise to get you both on board before presenting it to him.

Victoria: I’m not sure he would even change his mind, regardless of our opinions. Plus, I don’t wanna give adam the satisfaction of winning.

Nate: Maybe you shouldn’t view this on a personal level, either. It’s good business.

Nikki: Anything involving adam is never a good idea. It’s best that he has his own company to manage.

Victoria: Yes, one that he can run into the ground all by himself.

Nikki: Yeah, and I’m sorry that nicholas is involved in that, but maybe he can keep adam in line. All right, I have a business meeting at society. I’ll leave the two of you to hash this out.

Victoria: All right, mom. I’ll fill you in later.

Nikki: Yes, please do. And just let me say, I agree with victor in leaving the two entities alone. Let audra run newman media and adam can… do whatever he’s going to do. Just keep it clean and separate. Otherwise, we’re asking for trouble.

[ Door closing ]

Victoria: I thought that we had things settled on this front. What even prompted you to look into it?

Nate: Now that the launch of adustus is impending, it became obvious to me that their company and newman media would be redundant.

Victoria: It’s still disrespecting my father’s wishes, no matter how you spin it.

Nate: I disagree. I’m looking at this in an ongoing and fluid way. And I’m not advocating we do anything behind victor’s back.

Victoria: Well, convincing my dad…

[ Chuckling ]

[ Groaning ] That would be a tall order. We’d have to have a strong case to get through to him.

Nate: Think about what this would mean for newman media and for you when it’s successful.

Victoria: You know, there’s something else that I don’t understand about this. Merging the two companies would possibly dilute and jeopardize audra’s power. Have you lost faith in her for some reason?

Audra: I have nate working on victoria to convince her of the merits of the merger.

Adam: Hm. Well, that’s– that’s a smart idea because if victoria will listen to anybody, it’s nate.

Audra: And, as you know, uh, victor is out of the country, and this conversation is best had face to face with your father, so that won’t be happening today.

Adam: Mm-hmm, yes, I see the logic in that as well, but time is running out. We’re set to announce the launch of our company next week.

Audra: Hm. How exciting.

Adam: And it’ll be a lot stronger if the announcement includes the merging of newman media, mccall and kirsten.

Audra: You know, I can see how this clearly benefits you, but in this scenario, what happens to me?

Adam: Wait, wait, why is that my concern?

Audra: Am I gonna be the one left out in the cold? Because that really dampens the incentive.

Adam: I thought that your incentive was to keep a certain scandal quiet. You know, the one where you covered up for tucker’s pr department. The rockstar who was exploiting underage girls?

Audra: Look, that is at the top of my list. If that ever got out, it could destroy my career.

Adam: Yeah, those emails of yours are pretty damning.

Audra: Look, what I did was a coverup of a coverup. It was after the fact. A horrible fact. I am not condoning what that man did.

Adam: Well, nobody would condone that.

Audra: Look, I have fought to get where I am. Look, I still wanna protect my business position.

Adam: Well, then I suggest you accomplish what I have asked of you.

[ Audra chuckling ]

Audra: You know what? I think you’re underestimating my abilities. I’m an excellent asset. And newman media has been doing outstandingly well under my leadership. You have to have noticed that.

Adam: Perhaps.

Audra: Provided I can convince victor, where will I land once you, uh, fold newman media into your new company?

Adam: How about you make it happen and then we’ll see where you land. Postmenopausal women with hr+ her2- I am in love with mixtiles. You just pull the adhesive off the back and stick it to any surface, and there’s no damage to your walls. Go to mixtiles.Com and pick sizing, filters and it really makes it fit the decor of your home. Order now and get up to 50% off. (Smelling)

Nate: My respect and support for audra has not wavered.

Victoria: Well, she will be glad to know that.

Nate: I’m just thinking big picture here. This is a good move. The two companies will be redundant. Financial waste, no upside. Adam wasn’t wrong.

Victoria: His motives are. He has his own agenda. He wants to take newman media away from me. He’s not happy that it’s slipped out of his control.

Nate: His personal fixations aside, the strength of the two companies as one is undeniable.

Victoria: Let me ask you something: What do you propose happens to audra if these two companies were to merge?

Nate: I’m not worried about it. We’d figure how she fits in the new scenario. She’s a driven team player. The more important factor is what’s best for newman enterprises overall.

Victoria: I’m gonna have to think about it. But your passion and your insight are… very inspiring, as usual.

Nate: Thank you.

Victoria: It’s an incredible turn on.

Nate: Is that so?

Victoria: Yeah.

Nate: Okay, so, um… what do you wanna do about that?

Victoria: Well, if I didn’t have this meeting with oslo in ten minutes, I would say that maybe we could slip away somewhere.

Nate: Mm-hmm. Then, I guess this will have to suffice.

Ashley: Hello.

Jack: Hi.

Tucker: Hi, jack.

Abby: Well, I am glad that everyone could make it, and I’m grateful that you’ve agreed to this sit-down. My only stipulation is that significant others need to leave.

Ashley: Why?

Abby: Well, if we’re gonna get anywhere, it has to be a sibling only conversation.

Ashley: Because our significant others are the source of the problem.

Tucker: No offense from me. Uh, I think you’re right. Diane’s and my presence would be a dark shadow over the conversation.

Jack: You are indeed the storm cloud in this situation.

Tucker: Jack, despite what you may think, I actually want the two of you to find peace as brother and sister, okay? I have a good feeling about this meeting.

Diane: So do I.

Tucker: Shall we try to broker our own detente? If you care to join me for a little brunch. I’m buying.

Diane: Fine.

[ Diane exhaling ]

Abby: Okay, um… where should we begin? Schwarzkopf keratin color

Diane: Well, I’m sorry you feel that way, billy.

Billy: I’m sure you are.

Tucker: Well, maybe you should have a drink.

Billy: Let me tell you how this is gonna go for you, diane. You’re gonna push it too far. You’re gonna do that one thing that jack is not gonna be able to forgive or fix, and then he’s gonna realize that ashley was right about you the entire time.

Diane: My god, I am sick of all of you. And I am tired of having to prove myself to everyone but jack! I know who I am, what I’ve become, and I’m not gonna apologize to anyone anymore. So, think the worst of me. I don’t care. Excuse me, tucker. I’ve lost my appetite.

Nikki: Oh, great.

Diane: Oh, great.

Adam: I’m not afraid of tucker. And despite your bravado, I don’t think you would really take the chance of pissin’ me off. So, you’re just gonna have to trust that I will take care of you.

Audra: That’s not good enough.

[ Adam sighing ]

Adam: What is it that you would want?

Audra: Well, I know I can’t expect to remain ceo of newman media because everything would be under your control, along with nick and sharon.

Adam: Yes, that is correct.

Audra: But I would wanna be second in command.

[ Adam laughing, muttering ] Why wouldn’t I deserve it if I’m the one offering the means for the merger? I mean, not to mention, I’m strong and smart.

Adam: And humble, too, apparently.

Audra: And I can be as ruthless as you would ever need me to be. So, why are we even arguing about this?

Adam: I would have to run it by sharon and nick, but I’m confident that I can convince them. Provided you can deliver.

Ashley: Abby, could I please have five minutes alone with jack?

Abby: Mom, I agreed to be the mediator to keep you and uncle jack from getting into another one of your yelling matches.

Ashley: I promise you, that’s not going to happen.

Jack: I’m not so sure about that. Tucker’s brutish callousness seems to have rubbed off on you. You’re not the sister I once knew.

Ashley: Well, I don’t know who the hell you are either, jack, because diane’s turned you into an insipid fool.

Abby: Okay, stop. This is why I cannot leave the two of you alone. Now, do we need to set ground rules? Does this need to be a true debate?

Ashley: What are you gonna do? Ask us a question and give us five minutes to answer?

Jack: That’s a bit much, don’t you think?

Abby: Look, I will do whatever it takes to broker some sort of truce between the two of you. Now, does it have to be that controlled?

Ashley: I’m gonna save you a lot of time. I don’t want anything from you. I don’t want anything from jabot. I will gladly walk away empty-handed if I can be done with you and diane. With cirkul, your water is deliciously flavored at the turn of a dial, with zero sugar and zero calories. And cirkul has over 40 flavors, so your water can be as unique as you are. Try cirkul at drinkcirkul.Com – look mom! – Wow!

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

What can you do

with sensitive skin?

Jack: So, you– you’re going to walk away willingly?

Ashley: Yep.

Jack: Since when?

Ashley: Since right now. Honestly, I can’t stand the thought of having another argument with you where I tell you how wrong you are, so congratulations, you wore me down.

Jack: Okay, so what’s the catch?

Ashley: There is no catch. Oh, by the way, this is happening because of tucker. You know, that man you hate so much. He’s been trying to show me the futility of this war.

Jack: Has he really?

Ashley: He has. For months. He’s been trying to convince me to walk away and start fresh. But I’ve been too pissed off at you, until now.

Jack: O– okay, I– I can’t argue that, if indeed there are no strings attached.

Ashley: Buy me out and we are done.

Jack: Okay, I can agree to that. In fact, I’m– I’m happy about this.

Ashley: Oh, are you really happy about it, jack? Maybe ’cause you’re getting everything you want.

Jack: I am happy because you were willing to try something new. I knew things had grown untenable between you and me, at jabot and at home, because of diane and tucker.

Ashley: Yes, they have. And I wanna move on.

Abby: What does this mean moving forward? With your relationship with uncle jack. As your brother.

Ashley: What does it mean, jack?

[ Victoria moaning ]

Victoria: You know, as much as I would love to continue this, I have to get ready for that video call.

Nate: Snap back to reality.

Victoria: Yeah.

[ Nate chuckling ] Well, you could check back later. Maybe we could go get a bite to eat after work, if you want to.

Nate: I’d like that.

Victoria: All right.

Nate: Please though, uh, think about what I said. About the merger.

Victoria: I will. But be forewarned, bringing adam that much closer is more problematic than you think.

Nate: I can handle adam. You won’t need to worry about him.

Adam: Look, I see your value and I appreciate what you bring to the business.

Audra: You know, I’d imagine we, uh, work well together. We could do great things.

Adam: You know, I don’t hold your actions against you, either. You protected mccall. Which means you put business and loyalty first.

Audra: Yeah, well, it wasn’t my proudest moment, but I don’t bite the hand that feeds me.

Adam: Well, keep me posted on how things are going. And if you can deliver, this could work out well for both of us.

Diane: I’m guessing you’re not going to congratulate me.

Nikki: You know, I am amazed by all you have managed to do. It seems you have achieved everything you set out to get when you came back to genoa city.

Diane: Yes, I have. And despite what you may think, I came back with the best of intentions.

Nikki: Well, you wanted your son’s forgiveness and you got it. Then you married the billionaire you’ve been chasing for decades and managed to drive a wedge between jack and ashley, while gaining a foothold into jabot. I’d really admire you if you weren’t so loathsome.

[ Diane sighing ]

Diane: Have a nice day, nikki.

Nikki: See ya, diane.

Tucker: How do you see diane’s downfall at jabot playing out?

Billy: I mean, she’ll feel emboldened. Especially after ashley walks away. She’ll start to push her own agenda. She’ll have a bunch of bad ideas that jack is gonna support, invest money in and man power because he’s clearly blinded by love. And I will be in her ear. Feeding her ego. Telling her to take more and more control.

Tucker: Knowing at the end of that rainbow is your pot of gold.

Billy: Which I am very grateful to you and ashley for.

Tucker: Yeah. Seems you and I aren’t that dissimilar.

Billy: I guess we both revert back to regular form, don’t we?

Tucker: Heh. Unless, of course, you got your own agenda.

Billy: Wouldn’t that beat the band?

Tucker: ‘Cause it does seem just a little bit too good to be true.

Nikki: What does? Family is just very important.

Jack: If you could just give diane a chance or maybe just stop attacking her and live and let live, I can do the same thing with tucker.

Ashley: I will try my best.

Jack: So, we have an agreement?

Ashley: Looks like we do.

Jack: I think we have both been beaten down by this battle.

Ashley: Yeah, it’s been devastating. I– I… I want it to end.

Jack: So do I.

Ashley: I just want to move forward with my plans without being so angry. You know, be excited about my wedding and my new business with tucker.

Abby: So, uncle jack, does that mean you’ll come to my mom and tucker’s wedding?

Jack: Well, that depends on your mother. Are you willing to accept my bringing my wife to your wedding?

Billy: Tucker and I were just marveling at the fact that we’d been able to find some common ground. A mutual distrust and dislike for diane.

Tucker: Hm. It’s a miracle.

Nikki: That woman can bring even the most distanced of people together.

Billy: Yeah. Since coming back from the dead, she sure covered some ground, hasn’t she? I personally think there’s a bigger play at hand here and I’M… I’m worried about jack. And jabot.

Tucker: And, uh, I’ve had it with all the fallout between jack and ashley. Their divide.

Billy: Look at that. Who ever thought we’d be on the same page about anything?

Tucker: In a million years.

Nikki: Take it from me, it’s never a good idea to trust that woman.

Billy: That’s a very good point, nikki. You do have experience with her. So… do you have any advice for us?

Nikki: Every plan to drive her out of town has blown up, causing trouble for everybody involved.

Tucker: Well, she’s not invincible.

Nikki: Well, look at phyllis. What battling diane did to her. I think that that’s just what happens. People go mad with rage and become their own collateral damage.

Tucker: Yeah, but don’t underestimate phyllis, either. She might have something up her sleeve for diane.

Nikki: All I’m saying is, there is no upside in doing battle with diane. And I hate to say it…

[ Nikki sighing ] But I have resigned myself to the sad fact that she is now a part of the fabric of genoa city.

[ Diane sighing ]

Audra: Hello, diane.

Diane: Audra. Have a seat. I know we don’t know each other very well, but I know that you and kyle have been working together and that you have a, um, personal relationship.

Audra: Yeah, kyle is– he’s such a good man. You know, he’s so kind.

Diane: Yeah, I’m really protective of him. So is jack. And we were both curious when we heard that the two of you were spending so much time together.

Audra: He’s in good hands. I mean, professionally, of course. You know, he’s a great addition to, uh, newman media. He’s managed to impress me, and, uh… I’m pretty tough to impress.

Diane: So am I. Kyle belongs at marchetti with his wife. He might not show it, but he’s still in love with summer.

Audra: Well, I can’t comment on whether those are kyle’s true feelings or not. I only know what he reveals to me.

Diane: [ Laughing ] Oh, and I’m sure he’s being completely honest with you.

Audra: Well, to me, he seems like he’s ready to move on. You know, maybe not just from his marriage, but… maybe his whole life.

[ Diane exhaling sharply ]

Diane: What are you implying?

Audra: Perhaps he needs a break from all of you. To find himself.

Diane: Kyle needs his family now. More than ever. I doubt he needs to align himself with you to find himself.

Audra: My intentions are sincere. I wanna help him if I can.

Diane: No, you seem like the kind of person who puts herself first. Not above using people as a means to an end.

Audra: Well, I just want to be there for kyle in such a difficult time in his life.

[ Diane exhaling sharply ]

Diane: I can imagine that after everything kyle has been through, he is running away from himself and you are there to help him hide from the truth. But eventually, that’s all gonna fall apart.

Adam: Okay, well, just email that to me then. Okay. Thank you.

Nate: Busy with the upcoming launch?

Adam: Uh, it’s nonstop. But it is all coming together. How are things? Is, uh, audra living up to your and victoria’s standards?

Nate: Don’t be coy. I know what you’re doing. I find it despicable.

Adam: Do you?

Nate: Manipulating a situation in order to get what you want? It’s pathetic.

Adam: Yeah, this coming from a guy who sold out his own family.

[ Nate exhaling sharply ]

Nate: I do admire your ingenuity.

Adam: Don’t act like you haven’t done the same thing.

Nate: Oh, I’m nothing like you.

[ Adam exhaling sharply ]

Adam: You go after what you want and you don’t stop until you get it. Case in point, you wanted a plum role at a big company in business. You wanted to date a powerful woman and you’re with victoria.

Nate: It wasn’t calculated. Look, I’ve worked hard for what I have.

Adam: You know, there is one significant different between us. I know who I am and I embrace it. You need to learn to do the same thing. Doctor. So I didn’t think I needed swiffer,

Jack: Well?

Ashley: I’m thinking.

Abby: Mom.

Ashley: Look, you’re my brother. In spite of everything, I love you. It matters to me that you’re at my wedding, jack. I mean, it signifies that you’ve accepted tucker and that you see us as a team.

Jack: I’m not happy about it, but– but I will always support you, ashley.

Ashley: If you can make that gesture, then I can make the same effort where diane is concerned.

Jack: That is all I wanted.

Ashley: Okay, I guess it’s settled.

Jack: Then we will be there. Dare we…

Ashley: Oh.

Jack: Come on.

Ashley: Okay.

Abby: Well, that was easier than I expected.

Ashley: I guess we were more in sync than I thought.

Nate: My meeting was canceled at the last minute, but I did book us a dinner reservation for later. So, it wasn’t a complete waste.

Victoria: Good. I had some time to think while you were gone.

Nate: About what?

Victoria: Your proposal for adustus and newman media. I think that your idea has merit, but I have one caveat.

Billy: Hey.

Ashley: Hey.

Tucker: Hey.

Ashley: Hi.

Tucker: How are we?

Ashley: Uh, jack and I are in a good place. So, nikki, are you coming to our wedding? I haven’t received your rsvp.

Nikki: Oh, we’re not sure if victor will be back from his trip by then.

Tucker: Aw. I’m sure he won’t wanna miss it.

Nikki: You know, I still can’t believe the two of you are back together, but something tells me that there might be some fireworks at the wedding.

Ashley: Oh, I don’t know about that. Jack and I were able to work things out.

Nikki: Hm.

Ashley: I think it’s all gonna be just fine.

Jack: Well, that went well.

Abby: Yeah, it did.

Jack: You don’t seem as happy as you ought to be. You wanted to bring your mother and me together, and you did.

Abby: Yeah, it just– it all happened so quickly. I can’t help but wonder if it’s just another ploy on my mom’s part.

Jack: I think you ought to give your mother the benefit of the doubt.

Abby: Yeah, I’m just gonna set it all aside. You know, there’s a lot to do. I have to get back to the house. But, um, you’re gonna be there, right?

Jack: Count on it. Hey. Thank you.

Abby: Oh.

Diane: Bye.

Abby: Bye.

Jack: Hey.

Diane: Hey. Mm. How did it go?

Jack: Ashley relented on everything.

Diane: What?

Jack: She only wanted me to buy her out of jabot. I think she is newly emboldened thinking she has billy in her back pocket.

Diane: Huh.

Jack: Hey, what’s that look?

[ Diane sighing ] You seem worried. What happened?

Diane: Well, when tucker and I went to society, billy was there. And– and he played his part perfectly, but…

[ Sighing ] Maybe a little too well.

Jack: What does that mean?

Diane: Do you think ashley has actually turned billy against us?

Lucy: Whatever you want. This trip’s all about you.

Daniel: So, you are checking up on me.

Lucy: And I’m bringing my coolness to brighten your day.

Daniel: It does brighten my day. Now look, I’m gonna– I’m gonna say this again. I’m fine.

Lucy: Fine. Then, we’ll just have fun. Maybe mom will need some support because she’s stuck between Christine and Phyllis. There’s gonna be a trial soon, right?I

***************************************

Summer: Sorry, I needed to go for a walk and clear my head.

Daniel: Just when you think there’s nowhere to go but up when it comes to mom, things spiral again. This is insane.

Summer: So, I– I went over there and I tried to convince her to not take the plea deal and then we just ended up arguing about other things. I mean, there is no getting through to her. She is still stubborn to the point of obsession. She can’t even listen to somebody else’s perspective.

Daniel: I think at this point, it’s better that she serves time in prison rather than you.

Summer: As horrible as I feel saying it, I think you’re right.

*************************

Heather: I need to speak with my client in private. I apologize for wasting your time, christine. We will be in touch with you–

Phyllis: I’m taking the deal. I’ll plead guilty to avoid a trial. I need to protect my daughter at all costs.

Audra:  Tucker, that was years ago. And– and didn’t you wipe the system when you sold the company?

Tucker: Of course I did, Audra. But apparently the junk mail remained on one of the servers and guess who has found it. Adam freakin’ Newman.

Audra: How?

Tucker: How do you think? He is in charge of the company now, is he not? He has access to everything, does he not?

Audra: I know that, okay? What does this all mean, exactly?

Tucker: Well, he needed some leverage over me, so he went digging until he found it

**************************

Tucker: Let me see if I can explain it to you. Adam runs a media company under the Newman umbrella. You run a media company under the Newman umbrella.

Audra: I know.

Tucker: Yes! And do you think Adam is going to be content to peacefully co-exist?

Audra: Victor said that he doesn’t wanna merge Newman Media with Adustus.

Tucker: Oh, did Victor say so? Oh! Hallelujah, ’cause Adam always does his father’s bidding to the letter.

Adam: That’s a nice suit. Heard through the grapevine that, uh, it’s a pretty big day for you at Newman. Steering the ship while the boss is out of town.

Nate: Just grateful for the opportunity.

Adam: Hm. I am sure that you are. You have certainly been busy continuing to maneuver your way into the inner circle. Good luck.

Nate: You know, I found out from Victoria you’re interested in absorbing newman media into your new company.

[ Adam clearing throat]

Adam: Well, yeah, it’s, uh, a logical move now that we’re all under the newman enterprise umbrella. Newman media’s a standalone, kind of seems redundant with what I’m planning to accomplish.

Nate: Newman media is a powerhouse of the two. Mccall’s company needs a ton of work to be fit enough face off against us.

Adam: Well, I wouldn’t be so sure about that.

Nate: Oh, I’m more than sure. What you’re planning would never happen. The parts of your body that collagen supports:

*************************************

Sally: Nick suspects the same thing. It’s ironic more often than not. You two are on the same page when deciphering your father’s actions and words.

Adam: It’s maddening, isn’t it?

Nick: What’s going on?

Adam: Uh, I’m just here early for our meeting with sharon. She’s on her way, so she should be here soon.

Sally: Well, I will leave you two to get to work. But before I go, I think you both should know that I have made a decision.

Nick: What’s that?

Sally: I am going to give victor the benefit of the doubt. Pending a conversation with chloe, I am going to consider taking victor up on his offer.

Recap written by Eva

Adam promises Aura she will be COO of the new company if Newman Media and Adustus merge.

Ashley meets with Jack and asks him to buy her out so she can start her company with Tucker. Jack agrees to do that and Ashley agrees to let Diane come to her wedding. Ashley agrees to tolerate Diane if it makes Jack happy. Jack later tells Diane that Ashley seemed to be more confident since she thinks she has Billy in her back pocket. Diane tells Jack that she and Billy staged an argument for Tucker’s benefit at Society. Diane thinks that the argument seemed a little bit too real. Diane worries Ashley may have turned Billy against them.

[ Door clicks open ]

Nate: Oh, hello, nikki. Nice to see you again.

Victoria: Mom, is there some reason that you’re avoiding your own office?

Nikki: No, I was hoping to speak to you and I thought this would be the most efficient way.

Victoria: Good, I would like to speak to you as well.

Nate: If you’ll both excuse me, I have some newman media business to handle with audra.

Nikki: Certainly.

Victoria: Mm-hmm. Apparently, you didn’t waste any time while I was away, putting nate on the spot and grilling him about all kinds of things.

Phyllis: Listen to me, no more lies and I mean it. No more lies.

Summer: I really need you to mean it this time, okay? This doesn’t sit right with me, carson suddenly coming back and then tucker is in your room? I– I don’t– I don’t get it. What’s going on, mom? The truth. Not some made up story to spare me or any other excuse, please.

Phyllis: All right. Listen, my world has been spinning out of control. I’m trying to find a path out. Just trying to extricate myself and most importantly, you, from this mess.

Summer: So, that means something risky and dangerous that’s gonna blow up in our faces.

Phyllis: No, no, no. No. Honestly. This is doable. But I just need you to know my freedom hinges on tucker mccall.

Tucker: Your concern for your mother is touching, daniel, but I have no issue with phyllis. You got nothing to worry about, really.

Daniel: Why should i believe you?

Tucker: All I can give you is my word.

Daniel: That’s very reassuring.

Tucker: I’m telling you, there’s no– no games, no secret plans, no collusion of any kind. Uh, she and I share a distrust and a dislike for diane and your mom, um…

Daniel: And?

Tucker: Well, from what I understand, phyllis is working very hard to forge a new path ahead. She’s trying to let go of all her anger and her bitterness that has upturned all your worlds. And after what stark put her through, I’m impressed by her strength. Why aren’t you?

Jack: Zelda, it was great catching up with you in the big apple. I’m very excited about this new project that you and traci are leaning into.

[ Knocking on door ] Yeah, I think there’s a lot of promise. Yeah, I’m glad I could give you a few leads. We’ll talk soon.

Abby: Uncle jack, hi!

Jack: What a nice surprise. Come on in.

Abby: Oh, thanks. Um, well, I’m happy to hear that you are keeping in contact with zelda and that you’re supportive of aunt traci’s writing projects.

Jack: I’m especially excited about their latest endeavor.

Abby: Yeah. I just wish that things could be the same way with you and my mom. I– I am heartsick over the tension between the two of you and how it’s escalated off the charts. And if there is any way that I could help you fix this and– and put this behind you… hopefully, uh, before next week when my mom and tucker are getting married at the chancellor house.

Jack: They are going through with this farce of a marriage? And you and devon are hosting? Shingles.

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Abby: Okay, yes. Devon and I are helping my mom and tucker plan the wedding, but if you think about it, it makes sense because tucker is katherine’s son and devon and I will be standing up there with our parents.

Jack: I cannot believe what I am hearing. You are ready to sign off on a union between your mother and tucker mccall after how much you despised him in the past?

Abby: Okay, yes, I despised him, I hated him for how badly he hurt my mom, but my mom is happy now and honestly, I think tucker has changed. And my mom believes that, too.

Jack: Abby, I know you want your mother to be happy, I do, too. And I’m sorry to shatter your dream that this could be her next big chance at happiness, but tucker has not and will not change. He is the driving force behind her vehement determination to tear jabot apart and to punish me for loving diane. Look, she is not just willing, she is determined to break your grandfather’s company into pieces. We have disagreed in the past, we’ve not always seen eye to eye, there was always love and respect underneath that. This time, I have to admit, I– I’m scared for her. I don’t know how he pulled this off, but he has convinced her to shred her career and her family all at once.

Abby: Uncle jack, I’m sorry, but this time, I think you’re wrong.

Daniel: So, just to be clear, the only reason that you and my mother were hanging out was to talk about your mutual hatred for diane? And that’s it? You weren’t trying to work any kind of angle or come up with a plan that’s gonna ruin her life even further? No, seriously. [ Chuckles ] Just a friendly little conversation, right? And that’s why you were in her suite in the middle of the day while she’s facing murder charges?

Tucker: Daniel, I don’t think there’s anything I can say or do that’s gonna reassure you. You just don’t trust me. And apparently, you don’t trust your mother either, which is a real shame given how much love and trust she’s given you.

Daniel: Wow. You just love talking in circles. You know, I’m gonna try and be as direct as possible here. Stay the hell away from my mother. Enjoy your drink.

Phyllis: Tucker found carson. And I still need him to clear my name.

Summer: Tucker is the one that found him?

Phyllis: Yeah. He has resources, he has money.

Summer: So, what you’re saying is tucker is paying for his testimony?

Phyllis: Tucker is just making sure he stays around until I need him.

Summer: What, o– out of the goodness of his heart?

Phyllis: Listen, it’s quid pro quo. Tucker is asking that I get jack to forgive me and, in turn, diane will spin out.

Summer: And then what?

Phyllis: I don’t know. I don’t know. I guess diane goes too far, she leaves town, ashley’s happy to be rid of her, and tucker and ashley get to live happily ever after. I don’t know, I don’t care. What I do care about is keeping carson around.

Summer: Okay. Mom, I get it to a certain extent. I mean, I was willing to pay this guy to lie for you initially, but it– it’s not a good idea. Daniel and michael were right about that and you said that you understood that.

Phyllis: I do understand that, but that was before I heard the truth.

Summer: What’s the truth?

Phyllis: The truth is carson saw everything. He saw everything through the motel window and I didn’t know that, but he saw jeremy stark try to kill me and he saw how I stopped that from happening.

Summer: He saw? If he saw then why wouldn’t he come in? Why wouldn’t he try to help you?

Phyllis: I don’t know, maybe he was afraid. He’d already broken so many laws, he didn’t wanna be implicated. I don’t know.

Summer: You think that he could be trusted now?

Phyllis: I don’t know, but he’s all I got. Really, he’s all I got and– and this is the thing, is in order to get rid of tucker, I needed some leverage and I got that from adam. Okay? Tucker has rescinded the agreement and he’s rescinded everything and now I’m in direct communication with carson.

Summer: Oh, my god. This is– this is insane. This is nuts, mom. I don’t even know what to think. My head is actually spinning from all of the twists and turns in this story. I–

Phyllis: Listen, don’t do that, okay? Let’s stay positive, okay? I got this. This is all okay.

Summer: This is okay? I mean, mom, you just traded owing tucker for owing adam. This is what we’ve been fighting for? This is your freedom? This is your future? Oh, my god. Mom, you just got out from underneath one egomaniac, barely, and now you’re already cycling through two others? How is this okay to you? What are you thinking?

Nate: It’s nate.

Audra: Hi, uh, thanks for coming over so quickly.

Nate: Yeah. I had to give victoria and nikki an excuse about newman media.

Audra: That’s fair enough considering this mess is about that company anyway.

Nate: What’s going on?

Audra: Look, I know that it should be understood about all our conversations, but this should be kept in absolute confidence. Promise me you’ll do just that, as my total future hangs in the balance.

Nikki: Yes, victoria, I did have a very interesting lunch meeting with nate. It was very spur of the moment, it would’ve happened eventually whether you were in town or not.

Victoria: So, you put him on the spot and you grilled him and it was going to happen sooner or later, so I shouldn’t care? Is that what you’re saying?

Nikki: Well, don’t overreact. I’ve known nate a long time, since he followed in olivia’s footsteps as a doctor to his business endeavors and I am impressed with his drive and his accomplishments, but given the significant role he has at newman and in your personal life, your father and i naturally have some questions.

Victoria: I see. So, after this so-called lunch meeting, A.K.A interrogation, what is your take on nate? Is it more positive or is it more negative?

Nikki: Well, let me first say this, I was impressed with his directness. He laid all of his cards out on the table, that’s for sure. Including admitting that someday he’d like to have my job.

Victoria: Interesting.

Nikki: Uh-huh. Then he was quick to say he didn’t mean any disrespect.

Victoria: Nate has always been very direct about his ambitions. He’s never pretended otherwise.

Nikki: No, no, he has not. I guess I’m going to have to watch my back a bit more since he wants to replace me. All the more reason to keep an eye on him.

Victoria: Don’t worry. I am.

Nikki: Oh, well, I’m glad to hear that. That’s very wise. I mean, he did speak of co-piloting newman with you, but I think he just said that for my benefit.

Victoria: Oh, come on. I mean, you are being just as ridiculous as nicholas. Nate is not a threat to me or to you or the company in any way. He’s a valuable asset. He’s a strong leader and he has a lot to offer newman enterprises as we build our future.

Nikki: He made another interesting statement. He said he didn’t love you. So, please tell me that you’re not falling in love with him.

[ Nate sighs ]

Nate: I’m not so sure what I can promise until I know the deal.

Audra: That’s heavy, nate. Uh… the fate of newman media is on the line and ultimately, my future along with it.

Nate: You keep saying that. How so? What’s going on here?

Audra: Look, I really need your help, but I– I can’t expose myself and give you the details unless I know I can trust you.

Nate: Audra, what the hell is going on? What have you gotten yourself into?

Audra: It’s a mess I inherited via tucker and I would be in the direct line of fire.

Nate: Sounds like I could catch the fall out too if I helped you. So, you’re really not gonna tell me? Make me work this out myself? Fine. Let’s connect the dots here. Um, the fate of newman media plus tucker. This is something about mccall? Well, adam is running mccall these days, soon to be joined by nick and sharon with a consolidation merger. I know adam has been pushing hard to get his hands on newman media since he took over and you say this impacts newman media. Did adam dig up something that compromises your executive role? Is he the threat?

Jack: Abby, honey, I know how much you want peace with your mother, but this marriage, this so-called marriage, is moving at warped speed which says to me it’s only political. This isn’t about love, this is about love of power and it breaks my heart that my strong, capable, brilliant sister is allowing herself to be manipulated by this man.

Abby: Look, I am– I’m not gonna argue with you about who tucker is, but I don’t think he’s the problem.

Jack: What does that mean?

[ Abby sighs ]

Abby: Unfortunately, I think my mom is leading the attack. Her hatred for diane, it drives everything.

Jack: Yeah, she is irrational, but that makes her only more vulnerable to tucker’s control.

Abby: And I agree, my mom is strong and capable and brilliant, but she hates diane so much that she will do anything to take her down or to tear the two of you apart. And I think that tucker’s just along for the ride, happy to be the one person that she thinks isn’t conned by diane. Tucker loves my mom and he would do anything for her.

Summer: How could you involve adam in all of this? I mean, why– why would you do that? What does he want in exchange? Who are you gonna make a deal with next to get out from underneath adam’s thumb? Mom, it’s never gonna end.

Phyllis: Oddly enough, adam is doing me a favor.

Summer: Let me get this straight. So, adam is in control of tucker now, so that means that you’re in control of carson and you’re supposed to just trust that both adam and tucker aren’t going to do anything to screw this up for you? And that’s if, if carson’s testimony makes any difference at all because it is suspect, mom, no matter what you say. It doesn’t take a lawyer to figure that out. Does heather know about any of this?

Phyllis: Don’t worry about heather. I will deal with heather.

Summer: This all happened because you hate diane so much and you resented all of us who were willing to give her a chance, right? That’s why this all happened? You went to such extremes to prove your point. Look at where we are. Right back where we started. How am I supposed to trust anything that you have said since you came back from the dead? How? What happened with stark, you begging for forgiveness, wanting to make amends, saying that you’ve changed? After everything that has happened, mom, it– it seems like you haven’t changed. Yeah, everything’s taken care of.

Phyllis: Listen, summer,

[ Phyllis chuckles ] You don’t know what it’s like to be me. To stand here, facing you, telling you the truth, knowing that maybe you will never ever believe me again. I made mistakes, I realize that. I am trying like hell to make amends to you and your brother. I am trying so hard and it kills me to my core to have you doubt every single thing that comes out of my mouth.

Summer: Don’t talk to me about your pain, mom. I thought that I lost you and when you came back, I lost my marriage. I’m not gonna pity you. You’re the one that set that in motion.

Phyllis: Okay, I’m not gonna engage with you like this. I’m not gonna do it because every single thing I say to you, you have a counter attack to–

Summer: I’m not attacking you! Oh, my god! If the truth is that brutal, that is on you! I have tried. I have tried to accept you for who you are. I have tried to forgive you for everything that you have done and the damage that you have caused to me. If you want honesty, mom, this is what it looks like.

Phyllis: Listen. I’m gonna find a way out of this. It’s all gonna be good like I said earlier. I will find a way out of this.

Summer: The way out isn’t by colluding with tucker and adam, but you don’t care because you– you like it. You like the chaos and the destruction. You don’t know how to exist without all of this drama in your life.

[ Summer sighs ] You don’t have any ethics. You don’t have any shame and I– I’m finally seeing it now. You’re never ever gonna change back. Yeah.

[ Door slams ]

Jack: I can only imagine what your grandfather would think.

Abby: He’d be heartbroken, but not hopeless. He’d think that there’s a way to come back from this.

Jack: He was a wiser man than I.

Abby: Uncle jack, I’m sorry that my mom has gone off the deep end about diane, but tucker isn’t egging her on anymore.

Jack: Abby, I don’t see it.

Abby: I think that you don’t see it because you’re at the root of it. I mean, it’s your undying defense of diane, and the way you’ve been rubbing it in my mom’s face. And, okay, if– if you’re gonna bring diane to the wedding, then maybe you shouldn’t come.

Jack: Wait, you’re asking me to leave my wife at home?

Abby: My mom has found a level of happiness that she hasn’t had in a while and she does care about tucker and he cares about her. And you know if you bring diane, there’s gonna be some look, some sort of verbal attack and it’s not gonna be about love anymore. It’s gonna turn into this war and I will not let that happen.

Jack: You are putting me between a rock and a hard place, abby.

Abby: Uncle jack, I am trying to be switzerland here, I really am. I want to help fix this sibling bond between the two of you, but I can’t do it alone.

Victoria: As I’ve already told nate, I’m– I’m content with our current relationship status as is.

Nikki: So, you’re not falling in love?

Victoria: Oh, god no. No, I’m far too busy and I– I have too messy of a track record.

Nikki: Well, darling, you have known real love in the past. Life is short. Love is too important to give up on. I mean, I’m not talking about nate, I’m just talking about the general scheme of things.

Victoria: Well, yeah, you’re right, mom. I have known love, which is why I know that I can live without it. It just leaves me more time and more emotional freedom to focus on the kids and work and my life. I’m not… [ Scoffs ] Anxious to rush into anything right now.

Nikki: No, not now, but eventually.

Victoria: What if I’m just not, you know, good at it?

Nikki: Oh, victoria, come on.

Victoria: I mean, I’m good at a lot of things. I’m exceptional, if you get right down to it, at some things.

[ Sighs ] But love, uh– I’ve kind of made some poor choices at times and I’ve been selfish. I’ve also been too giving at times. Sometimes, I’ve lost myself along the way. I’ve betrayed people that I love and I’ve been betrayed.

[ Victoria sighs ] But you know the worst part, mom, is that I’ve trusted men so much. I’ve loved them so much that I didn’t realize who they really were. I don’t wanna blindly trust anymore, but I also don’t wanna have a permanent distrust. I don’t wanna carry that around. So, love isn’t really an issue for me because I won’t let it be.

Nikki: Darling, uh, love may not last forever, but that doesn’t mean that you should cut yourself off from it. Don’t give up. Allow yourself to love and trust and put the past aside when the right man comes along, of course.

Victoria: [ Scoffs ] Okay.

Nikki: Wait, wait, wait, just a minute, just a minute. I’m not quite finished. I know you and nate are having fun right now, but don’t be afraid to look elsewhere for something meaningful. I know you feel you’ve been burned a few times, but real love is too important to miss out on.

Audra: Uh, there was a major issue with one of our artists while I worked for tucker at mccall. While on a worldwide million dollar tour, the pr department found out that the singer was sleeping with, um, underage girls.

Nate: Statutory rape. Tucker knew about this?

Audra: Uh, no, no. He was, um, he was on one of his quests with no direct oversight or a knowledge of day-to-day matters at the time.

Nate: Still, it’s disgusting. Not to mention a huge financial liability.

Audra: Yeah, and a public relations crisis during a locked in, sold out tour. So, the pr department went into overdrive. They kept things quiet until the tour wrapped, at which time the star, you know, he admitted to the crime, went through due process, et cetera.

Nate: And tucker made you keep it quiet.

Audra: Yes. He did. And then when he returned, he learned about what had happened during his absence and then he directed me to wipe all traces, including replacing the pr team.

Nate: Okay, so what went wrong?

Audra: Well, some of my private emails to tucker slipped through to his spam folder. He never saw them and they were somehow missed during the data purge.

Nate: And now, adam is in control of those corporate it assets.

Audra: That’s right and he’s forcing my hand, insisting that I convince victor that the merging of newman media with mccall makes good business sense.

Nate: He is obsessed with getting his hands on your company.

Audra: And if he doesn’t get it, he’s gonna go to the press, I’ll be toast, and my career will be over. Dupixent helps you du more with less asthma.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue. What can you do with sensitive skin?

Victoria: Don’t worry, mom, I’m– I’m not hiding from love or from anything else, you know? I’m– I’m enjoying my life. I am. I– I wake up excited. Every day has challenges and I just– I love each and every single success. And you know, I’ve finally put the pain of ashland behind me. I love working here alongside you.

Nikki: As do I.

Victoria: And look, I mean,

[ Victoria sighs ] The kids are doing so great. They’re in such a solid place right now.

Nikki: Darling, you’re a wonderful mother. We are so blessed to have such a loving family.

Victoria: And as for nate, I have to say, I mean, I finally feel like I’m living my life as an adult, you know? Both work and play, nate is just so fun to be around at the office. He’s– his spark and his energy, it just kind of fuels my productivity here at newman and– yes, I do also enjoy time with him outside of the office. I do. Mom, I’m content when I look at my future. For now. And I appreciate your motherly and your business instincts around here, but I have to ask you, in regards to nate, to back off. I insist on it.

Audra: I can usually finesse these kinds of situations, but I don’t like being stuck between two men like adam and tucker.

Nate: Listen, we think this through and come up with a solution.

Audra: That was exactly what I was hoping you’d say.

Nate: In the big picture, I don’t think there would be anything criminal to charge you with. From what you said, the guilty person has been dealt with under the law.

Audra: Absolutely.

Nate: Okay, and what kind of proof is there?

Audra: Of my involvement?

Nate: And tucker’S.

Audra: Uh, just two emails from me to him indicating knowledge of the coverup, uh, proof that we were both aware and kept it private.

Nate: The professional stain can be hard to wash off. You might be unemployable for a bit.

Audra: Well, any time is– is too long. And it was tucker’s damn company.

Nate: Yes, guys like tucker never take the fall and you know that. (Wheezing)

Audra: Um, you know, I’m– I’m pretty confident that I can sell victor on the idea of merging mccall with newman media. You know, I’ve got solid business reasons. Like, our most successful competitors today are more nimble and– and adaptable than ever. You know, this move will facilitate a united front, fewer silos. You know, victor should approve.

Nate: He’s claimed he’s not interested.

Audra: Look, I know that. Adam made that clear, but he doesn’t care. And– and victoria is the other issue. You know she’ll just be a stumbling block because they will bring adam into the same business unit.

Nate: She’s unlikely to support this given the sibling dynamics.

Audra: I am aware of that, nate, which is why while I work on convincing victor, I need you to please convince your boss and your romantic partner that this makes sense.

Nate: Listen–

Audra: It’s much better to have adam on the same team versus being our internal rival.

Nate: Listen, I see the big picture business logic in this, but why aren’t you putting up a fight? Or coming up with a plan b? Audra, if you sell this, you will ultimately be in a weaker leadership position at newman media. Do you understand that?

Audra: Yes, I do and I am working on a plan b, okay? But I can’t stall tucker. His highness is demanding that I resolve this right away, and plus, there’s too much on the line to wait. So, please, I need you to work your magic and convince victoria. Can I count on your support?

Jack: Abby, I love you and respect what you’re trying to do. I, too, would like to restore peace at home, at work, and with my sister.

Abby: Wonderful. Then help me fix this.

Jack: I can’t fix this. I am not gonna turn my back on diane. I think you know I waited a long time for love like this. I’d like to think I deserve it. And– and unless ashley can accept it, there will be no peace.

Abby: Look, uncle jack, someone needs to extend an olive branch, make some movement. And here I am. I am extending the olive branch. My grandfather would want that. So, please, can we just get in a room, just the three of us, and talk this out?

[ Jack sighs ]

[ Summer sighs ]

Phyllis: Hi. I need to see you right away. Yeah. It’s urgent. Everything’s about to change. -We’re done. -What about these?

Jack: Abby, I don’t want you to be disappointed. I know this has put you in an impossible position. I hate that it has come to this.

Abby: I know.

Jack: But look around. I never imagined things would escalate to this point on both sides and I worry that I– I’m going to slam into a brick wall if I try to mollify things with ashley.

Abby: Please, uncle jack. Just one last try. We have to. There’s too much on the line.

Jack: Okay. Okay. For your sake, I will make one last attempt at peace. Text your mother, tell her I will meet with her.

[ Abby gasps ]

Abby: Thank you, uncle jack! Thank you! Ah, thank you. Thank you, uncle jack. You’re not gonna regret this.

Nikki: Victoria, I can’t–

[ Knocking on door ]

Victoria: Nate.

[ Sighs ] Is everything handled regarding newman media?

Nate: A holding pattern for now. Am I interrupting?

Nikki: No, I’m done for the day. I’ll let the two of you get back to work.

Victoria: Goodbye, mom.

Nate: Take care, nikki. I’ll see you soon. Is everything okay with your mom?

Victoria: Yeah, she’s fine. She’s just being mom. Tell me about this holding pattern. Did you speak with audra? Was everything okay over there?

Tucker: Hi. Can I buy you a drink? Toast to a deal well done?

Audra: I’ll stick with club soda.

Tucker: Hey. I apologize for earlier. None of this is your fault. It’s my fault. I let my frustrations get the better of me and I took them out on you and you didn’t deserve it. I’m sorry. Anyway, I guess everything is handled now, yes?

Audra: Like, I’m handling it, but things are far from over.

[ Tucker scoffs ]

Tucker: Oh, not what I wanted to hear.

Christine: Phyllis.

Phyllis: Christine.

Heather: Madame D.A.

Phyllis: I’m ready to make a deal.

Summer: As much as it breaks my heart, I– I just don’t see another choice. This is the only way that we’re gonna be able to move forward.

Daniel: I agree. It’s time to let go.

[ Summer sighs ]

Summer: Hopefully, this makes mom see the light and actually change her ways. I mean, she’s got to pay a price for what she’s done and not at our expense.

Heather: I need to speak with my client in private. I apologize for wasting your time, christine. We will be in touch with you–

Phyllis: I’m taking the deal. I’ll plead guilty to avoid a trial. I need to protect my daughter at all costs.

[ Knocking on door ]

Nate: I didn’t think you’d be back from L.A. ’til tomorrow.

Victoria: Well, you know, once I closed the deal, I– I had nothing else holding my interest.

Sharon: You wanted the truth. There it is.

Phyllis: Okay, let me see if I have this straight. Um, if I manage to stay out of prison and accept Adam’s offer to make me the chief technology officer at your company, you want assurances that I’m contrite about blowing up my life?

Sharon: Phyllis, this is more than just a business deal for me. Cameron Kirsten was a hateful man.

Phyllis: Who left you a company.

Sharon: And that’s why I really want to see something good come of this, and I thought that was something that you could appreciate.

Phyllis: What, well, ’cause I’m poison, right?

Sharon: Well, actions do have consequences.

Phyllis: And karma’s a bitch.

Sharon: Listen, I am not trying to be gratuitously hurtful or anything like that. No, I think that you and I, we have gotten to a place of peaceful coexistence. I really thought that this would be a good opportunity for you to change. To learn something. To grow up.

Phyllis: Yes, I want all those things. Uh, hopefully, I can manage to stay out of prison.

Summer: Hey. Can we please just be civil about this?

Daniel: By this, you mean our mother, who has not only dragged you into this mess, but now has you in the D.A.’s crosshairs?

Summer: Look, Christine’s not gonna come after me. She was just making noise to rattle Mom.

Daniel: Is that what Mom told you? ‘Cause Christine wasn’t playin’ around. She was serious about her offer.

Summer: What are you talking about?

Daniel: Well, I assumed you already knew, since Mom is so eager to share everything else with you.

Summer: What offer, Daniel?

Daniel: Christine may not prosecute you if mom pleads guilty to all the charges.

Summer: She’s not gonna do it, is she?

[ Knocking on door ]

[ Knocking on door ]

Tucker: I’ll tell you, it is hard to believe that someone as smart and capable as you could make us such a monumentally stupid mistake!

Audra: Is this your idea of a compliment? Because that would explain why Ashley has been so slow to come around and forgive you now.

Tucker: On the other hand, maybe you did it on purpose.

Audra: Did what?

Tucker: You left something linking me to that singer issue, knowing full well the damage it could do to me if it ever got out, which it has. So, I’d like you to tell me, are you truly that incompetent or did you deliberately try to screw me over? The company goes to the firstborn, Audrey.

Audra: How am I supposed to know how to respond when I have no idea what you’re talking about?

Tucker: A singer signed to the McCall label, who, it turned out, was getting involved with underage girls on the road. Ringing any bells? He went to jail for statutory rape when the tour was finished.

Audra: Yeah, because the PR department decided to cover it up. Yes, I– I remember.

Tucker: Yeah, and do you remember that I asked you to clean up this mess, so it would not come back to haunt us? I fired everyone on that PR team and told you to take care of the rest!

Audra: I did take care of it. I– I deleted all the information relating to that decision. I averted all crisis.

Tucker: And then decided it was a good idea to email me the progress. Emails I never got because they went to my junk mail.

Audra: Okay, so what? Okay, Tucker, that was years ago.

Tucker: Well, he needed some leverage over me, so he went digging until he found it.

Audra: And you believe him?

Tucker: Let’s see if this sounds familiar. “Singer problem remedied. Hands clean.” You got careless, and now you’ve put us both in jeopardy, and now you’re gonna fix it.

Adam: Hey, I couldn’t help but overhear your, um, your, your–

Sharon: Our discussion.

Adam: Discussion.

Phyllis: Grim assessment of my character.

Sharon: That’s not how I meant it to sound.

Phyllis: Sharon is, um, nervous that I am going to experience some, I don’t know, karmic payback for my recent actions and that my bad juju…

Sharon: Mm-hmm.

Phyllis: …might affect your plans merging these companies.

Sharon: I was just encouraging Phyllis to do a little introspection.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm.

Adam: You know, it– it’s good to get this all out now. You know, some honest give and take before we embark on this venture together.

Phyllis: Mm. Well, not all of us are as confident in this collab as, um, some of us are.

Sharon: I never said that. I didn’t say that. I just felt it was important to express some of my concerns.

Adam: And I fully support that. But I would encourage you to focus on the positives, and not dwell on the worst-case scenario. I don’t think Phyllis has to worry about karma playing any cosmic jokes on her. She’s in a better place now.

Sharon: Do you know something we don’t?

Adam: No, I just– it’s just a gut feeling. I expect big things from her as our CTO.

Phyllis: Yup. And that’s what I intend to give you, if I have the chance.

Sharon: Well, Adam sounds confident.

Adam: Mm-hmm. So, we proceed accordingly. We be optimistic, we plan for success. And if we are to take you at your word that you’re gonna walk the straight and narrow, our media powerhouse is gonna be run by a team of veritable angels.

Sharon: I’m all for optimism, but that might be pushing it a little too much.

Daniel: I hope Mom does take the deal that Christine’s offering.

Summer: Do you even hear yourself? That deal means guaranteed prison time for Mom. You really want her to do that for my sake?

Daniel: No, Summer. I want her to do it because it’s the right thing to do. I– do you really feel like there should just be no consequences?

Summer: My god, we have been over this so many times. Stark manipulated her. He threatened to kill her!

Daniel: This is Mom’s chance to prove that she’s serious about having changed, about wanting to live differently and do the right thing, but you know what my gut tells me? My gut tells me that she’s willing to let you be punished because she’s more interested in protecting herself.

Summer: I’m not gonna let her do this.

Daniel: What– summer! You are not helping her by buying into this. You’re enabling her worst instincts. You know I’m right.

Summer: You know what, Daniel, you don’t need to understand the bond that I have with our mom, and you– you don’t need to understand why I’m not gonna let her do this! You just need to back off!

Audra: Look, it’s not my fault that you decided not to check your spam folder–

Tucker: Your job was to make this disappear completely!

Audra: Okay, if that’s all Adam has, it’s not much in the way of leverage.

Tucker: Do you think he’s just gonna stop digging? He could contact the PR team who was responsible for the cover-up. For all we know, he already has.

Audra: He just has a couple of cryptic emails. Let’s– let’s not overreact.

Tucker: Oh, no, let’s not overreact. Sure. No, you’re right, I’m sorry. He’s just in a position now to derail all my plans, but no, let’s– let’s not overreact.

Audra: What do you want me to do?

Tucker: I think I’ve made it clear. You need to fix things with Adam. You get him to back off. ‘Cause your future depends on it, you know.

Audra: My future?

Tucker: No, that’s right. I’m gonna handle my end of things.

Audra: Why would you put it that way?

Tucker: Let me see if I can explain it to you. Adam runs a media company under the Newman umbrella. You run a media company under the Newman umbrella.

Audra: I know.

Tucker: Yes! And do you think Adam is going to be content to peacefully co-exist?

Audra: Victor said that he doesn’t wanna merge Newman Media with Adustus.

Tucker: Oh, did Victor say so? Oh! Hallelujah, ’cause Adam always does his father’s bidding to the letter.

Audra: Oh, my god.

Tucker: Do you wanna keep your position at that company? If so, you manage Adam and you make this go away.

Audra: You know, you said that you’d handle your side of things. So, Adam isn’t the only problem you’ve got, is he? Who else knows about this?

Phyllis: In all sincerity, Sharon, I really want this to work and I really want to be part of making this new company a success. I really do. I hope you believe me.

Sharon: Yeah, yeah, I believe you right now. While you’re in this place and everything’s hanging over your head, but you know, I know you. I’m a realist.

Phyllis: Well, that is fair. That is fair. Yeah. I have to walk the walk.

Sharon: Look, the reason that I needed to have this honest conversation with you is because this is really, really important to me. But I also– I see this as a good opportunity for everyone as well.

Phyllis: So, don’t screw it up, Phyllis, right?

Sharon: Well, I wouldn’t put it that way, but yeah.

Phyllis: [ Scoffs ] ‘kay. I’ll do my best, all right? I really want this. I– I do. I– I see it as a really great business opportunity and… I mean, I heard, Adam told me, that you and Nick weren’t really happy to learn that, um, he had offered me the job, so…

Sharon: Oh, well, that had more to do with how it came about. It should have been a joint decision.

Adam: Well, I let my enthusiasm get the better of me.

Sharon: Still, you know what? Nick and I, we would have never agreed and gotten on board if we didn’t think it could work.

Phyllis: Right. Okay. Well, may– it may be a little awkward, you know, given our history, of course. I mean, even the four of us. But, uh, you know, I think we can make it work. I mean, hey! We had some good times at Restless Style, remember?

Sharon: For a time, yeah!

Phyllis: Yeah, yeah!

Adam: Yeah! And I remember when it went from fashion to a gossip rag and I was a regular target.

Sharon: Oh, well that was really more Billy, not us.

Adam: Oh, no, Nick and Phyllis, they got their digs in at me as well.

Sharon: Okay, well…

Phyllis: Um…

Sharon: Why don’t we just all agree that it won’t be anything like that? I mean, we’re all on the same team, right, Phyllis?

Phyllis: Yes, we are. We absolutely are.

Victoria: So, I wanna know how things went while I was away.

Nate: Oh, you weren’t gone that long.

Victoria: I know, but Dad’s in Europe and you and Mom were running things. Did the two of you get along?

Nate: We did. She invited me out to lunch, actually.

Victoria: Really? Well, what prompted that?

Nate: Uh, she wanted to have a frank conversation about you and my intentions.

Victoria: Oh, god.

Nate: Well, it’s– it’s fine, it’s fine. She’s protective of you. I respect that.

Victoria: So, what did she say?

[ Nate chuckles ]

Nate: Well, uh, she talked about my ambition… Nick’s belief that I have some kind of agenda, but it all came down to one question. What is it that I want?

Victoria: Well, what did you say?

Nate: Told her the truth. In the most direct, respectful way I could. That, in an ideal world, you and I would run Newman side by side.

Victoria: Oh, wow. That must have surprised her.

Nate: Well, she was surprised that I was that honest. I was just as honest with her when she asked about my feelings for you.

Victoria: Oh?

Nate: I told her how much I admire and respect you. That we have a rare understanding. That, uh… the foundation of our relationship is a deep friendship.

Victoria: You know what? That’s a perfect description. I approve.

Nate: I also said that things hadn’t progressed to what you’d call serious, but that I could see that happening.

Victoria: If we’re being honest…

Nate: Please.

Victoria: I don’t know if I’m capable of having a– a serious, committed relationship with anyone again.

Nate: I get that. I know what Ashland put you through.

Victoria: But not just Ashland. After so many failed attempts, I just… I feel like I’m in a good place, you know? Like, a stable place.

Nate: I wasn’t saying it to put any kind of pressure on you. I’m not there either, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it did happen. That’s how much of a connection I feel with you.

Victoria: I like what we have together.

Nate: Because it’s amazing.

[ Victoria chuckles ]

Nate: Spending time together like this, while being able to work together, feeding off each other the way we do. Planning global domination.

[ Nate chuckles ]

Nate: It’s all I could ever really ask for.

Victoria: I feel the same way. I don’t wanna rush things.

Nate: We won’t.

Sharon: Well, this is a nice surprise!

Mariah: Tessa and I have some news that we just couldn’t wait to share.

Sharon: Good! What is it?

Mariah: Well, I know that there was a time we thought it was never gonna happen, but we finally found the perfect babysitter for Aria.

Tessa: Everything we were looking for in a caregiver.

Sharon: Oh, that’s great. I know what a relief it is to feel confident you’re leaving your daughter in good hands.

Tessa: Mm-hmm. Which leads us to the next part of what we came to tell you.

Sharon: More good news. I can tell by the looks on your faces.

Tessa: Well, I can’t wait to see the look on your face.

Mariah: Tessa and I have been talking a lot about this, and we’ve finally come to a decision, which was made easier by the fact that we now have a first-class caregiver for Aria. I’m gonna leave Jabot and come work for you at the new company.

Sharon: Oh, Mariah.

Tessa: There it is!

Sharon: This is wonderful news, the best news.

Tessa: Right? I just love the idea of you two working together.

Sharon: I know how proud you are of the work you’ve done at Jabot and I know that it’s a big deal for you to walk away from there after everything you’ve accomplished.

Tessa: Well, I encouraged Mariah to do what was best for her. I mean, staying at Jabot and navigating all that tension, or going to work for someone who’s gonna welcome her with open arms and endless brownies?

Mariah: Which was, uh, excellent advice.

Tessa: Mm-hmm.

Mariah: So, I know things are moving very fast with the new company, so I am ready. Whenever you need me.

Sharon: Uh, now. Immediately.

[ Both chuckling ]

Tucker: Hi.

Phyllis: Wow. Breaking into my hotel room.

Tucker: Is this your room? [ Scoffs ] I’m sorry, I thought it was my room. They all look so similar.

Phyllis: Don’t you have people for that? You know? I’m sure it’s hard finding competent people to sort of cover up your messes, isn’t it?

Tucker: Phyllis, I have to admit, you and Adam really got the better of me this time.

Phyllis: Hmm. Well, I’m sure you’d rather eat glass than admit that.

Tucker: No, no, no, I’m impressed, really. ‘Cause I did not see it coming. Although, I feel like I have to make a couple of things clear.

Phyllis: Oh, okay, if you must.

Tucker: Uh, the singer in question who was–

Phyllis: Um, sorry. Singer. Um, is that– hmm, that’s– it’s the guy who was interested in the underage girls? Charged with statutory rape, and then finished out his lucrative tour? That’s right, that– that singer, right?

Tucker: Hmm, yeah. I had nothing to do with the cover-up. That was the PR team in place at the time, uh, and I fired everyone on that team when I discovered they had covered it up, so–

Phyllis: And got rid of all the evidence, right? Or so you thought?

Tucker: Yeah. And that was a foolish oversight on my part. But cleaning up the mess, that’s just good business, you know. Gotta protect the company.

Phyllis: Protect yourself. Gotta protect yourself. Hey. This little ambush? Obviously, you, uh, created it to throw me off of my game, and it hasn’t, so… why are you here?

Tucker: I’m prepared to make you an offer.

Phyllis: Yeah. You know, I’ve had my fill of being threatened and manipulated by you.

Tucker: Well, not to put too fine a point on it, but I’m the one currently being threatened here, so– uh, if I get proof that Adam has erased any and all evidence implicating me in this scandal and I’m assured that he’s not seeking any more, I will give you whatever you need to be exonerated.

Phyllis: I need Carson.

Tucker: Yes, your star witness who will claim to have seen you act in self-defense.

Phyllis: I did act in self-defense and he did see it.

Tucker: That’s right. Sure. I– it doesn’t make any difference to me. Plus, I’m not the one you have to convince. And once I’m satisfied that you’ve handled your end, I will let you know where I’m keeping him. And no games.

[ Phyllis scoffs ]

Phyllis: How can i take your word for it?

Tucker: Mm, I can understand why you wouldn’t, but it’s just the way it’s gonna have to be. And one more thing. Uh, if you want his testimony, you have to be the one to pay for it. I’m out. I’m not gonna spend another dime on it.

Phyllis: What about Jack? And throwing Diane off her game to destabilize Jabot?

Tucker: I no longer need you for that. Ashley’s been warning me all along you’d let us down anyway, so–

[Phyllis chuckles ]

Phyllis: Oh, really? That’s rich. This coming from a woman who’s trying to undermine her family’s company by screwing over her brother?

Tucker: You didn’t want anything to do with it from the beginning, remember? And now, I’ve given you the key to your freedom. God. You’re really holding on to so much anger, Phyllis. You know that?  [ Chuckles ] I think you need to work on opening up your chakras. Hey.

Summer: What are you doing here?

Daniel: So, Christine is talking like she might be willing to make a deal with Mom in order to protect Summer.

Heather: What kind of deal, exactly?

Daniel: She will leave Summer alone and Mom would have to go trial as long as she pleads guilty to all the charges.

Heather: What the hell? Is she cutting me out of the loop because of things with my father or is she doing it because she knows this is a very sketchy way to handle this?

Daniel: I think she should take the deal.

Heather: Which is why you’re not a defense attorney. It’s not gonna happen, Daniel.

Daniel: Okay. Yes, Christine is close to crossing some lines, and–

Heather: It’s coercion.

[ Daniel scoffs ]

Daniel: It’s a way to keep Summer from being punished for crimes that our mother committed.

Heather: No, no, no. It’s a brazen tactic. Christine is boxing your mom into a corner. I– I won’t allow it.

Daniel: Summer knew that Mom was still alive. She didn’t say anything. She let Diane sit in jail. I mean, she could be charged with obstruction. With aiding and abetting and god knows what else. All because my mom played on her emotions and manipulated her into keeping quiet.

Heather: Does Summer know about the offer?

Daniel: Told her about it.

Heather: And?

Daniel: She doesn’t think Mom should take the deal, and, you know, Mom’s got her brainwashed. Summer’s the only one who understands her. It’s the two of them against the world. Mom is only lookin’ out for herself. You have to get through to her.

Heather: Phyllis is my client. It’s my job to protect her.

Daniel: Even if it means Summer taking the blame. You’re gonna let that happen?

Heather: Daniel, I know you wanna protect your sister, okay? But she doesn’t want protecting. So my advice to you is, leave this one alone.

Tessa: Things won’t be the same without you at Jabot, but this is a dream situation. You’re working with your mom.

Mariah: And with Phyllis! Yippee!

Sharon: Hey, if I can do it–

Mariah: How are you managing that?

Sharon: Very carefully.

Mariah: No, I’m serious.

Sharon: Well, we’re all in different places now. You know, we’ve all grown up and changed. I will be keeping a close eye on things. You know, everyone has signed onto this for their own reasons. But we all needed to work.

Tessa: So, this partnership is outrageous, full of quirks. This speaks to me.

Sharon: It has its challenges!

Mariah: Well, I know that you’re working on old relationships, but I hope you don’t ignore the new one, with Chance?

Sharon: [ Chuckles ] Okay. Aren’t you smart? Yeah. You know, I really am enjoying my time with Chance. And I have been super busy with work.

Mariah: Well, don’t neglect that relationship. It seems like there might be something there.

Sharon: Yeah. There may be.

Adam: Well, that didn’t take long. Come on in.

Audra: Tucker thought it was important to share this latest development with me as soon as possible.

Adam: What? The proverbial sword hanging over his head?

Audra: You know, it’s, um, it’s terrible. What happened at McCall, all those years ago. But the way the PR team covered up for that singer, none of which Tucker was privy to.

Adam: Mm, not when it was happening, but after the fact.

Audra: There’s no need for this to get acrimonious. I’d like to make a deal.

Adam: Well, I am listening.

Audra: It’s as much in your interest to keep the scandal buried as it is for me and Tucker.

Adam: Oh, yeah?

Audra: Mm.

Adam: And why is that?

Tucker: I was just checking in on your mom, asking her how the case is going.

Phyllis: Yes, and I– I said it’s going great.

Tucker: She said it’s going great.

Summer: Hm.

Tucker: It’s– it’s wonderful to see you feeling so confident.

Phyllis: Thank you.

Tucker: You’re welcome.

Phyllis: Yeah, um, uh– I’ll see ya. Bye-bye.

Tucker: I’ll see you. Goodbye. Goodbye.

Summer: What the hell is going on?

Phyllis: I don’t know. I mean, he is–

Summer: Mom!

Phyllis: I mean, anything could be going on with that guy.

Summer: Is this about messing with Diane again?

Phyllis: Listen. Honestly, I want nothing to do with that woman.

Summer: Okay, that’s not what I asked. Daniel told me that he has seen you around with Tucker. Is– is he pressuring you, somehow? Mom. I have been the person that has stood by you through all of this. The person that understands everything that you’re going through.

Phyllis: I know. I know, babe. And I am so grateful to you.

Summer: Okay, well, Daniel also told me about the deal that Christine offered you?

Phyllis: He did, did he? Really? I can’t wait to hear what he said to you, given the way he feels about me right now.

Summer: Just please tell me that you’re not considering it.

Phyllis: Of course I’m considering it! I’d do anything for you.

Summer: That is what Christine is counting on, Mom!

Heather: It’s coercion.

Christine: Ugh, look, Phyllis completely exaggerated our conversation.

Heather: Okay. You circumvented counsel, went directly to my client and tried to leverage her into pleading guilty.

Christine: She came to me. She asked me to stay away from Summer. She was the one who was trying to leverage things.

Heather: How exactly did she do that? She didn’t, she couldn’t. She doesn’t have any leverage.

Christine: Ah, she was trying to intimidate me. You know, Phyllis, the force of nature, who has to have things her way. I– I just refuse to put up with that anymore.

Heather: I’m sure there are witnesses to this intimidation?

Christine: Okay, look, I– I understand your obligation to Daniel. And Phyllis is Lucy’s grandmother, but once you set aside those emotional complexities, this is not a woman you want to go to war for.

Heather: Christine, she’s innocent until proven guilty.

Christine: Do you really want Phyllis Summers on a stand? The public has a long memory and it would be a jury of her peers.

Heather: And now you’re trying to bully me?

Christine: I’m stating facts, Heather– uh, look. I respect you, okay? And I appreciate the connection we have through the law. You believe in justice.

Heather: And I always thought you did, too. I know the history that you, my father, and Phyllis share. But the Christine I know would never wage a personal vendetta against someone on trial.

Christine: I don’t have to. I’m letting the evidence speak for itself. Uh, I have to say, you’re starting to sound as desperate as Phyllis.

Heather: Uh…

Victoria: Do you want to get a coffee to go?

Nate: Yeah.

Tucker: Do you guys live up there together now?

Victoria: Well, here you sit, all alone. Clearly, you have way too much time on your hands.

Nate: While we have a company to run. So, if you’ll excuse us.

Tucker: Hey, speaking of your company, I have some advice for you.

Nate: Nothing of value, I imagine.

Tucker: Ah, that’s too bad. Imagination is such a valuable tool in the business world.

Victoria: Ugh, what is it, Tucker? I mean, please.

Tucker: I have a feeling that Adam is preparing to make a move to acquire Newman Media. I know Pops told him it was verboten, but you know Adam.

Victoria: Oh, well, if he’s foolish enough to make that kind of move, then we’ll just deal with it.

Tucker: Well, that’s just it. You’ve got Audra Charles running Newman Media at the moment and she will be on the front line when the onslaught begins.

[ Tucker sucking teeth ]

Tucker: Are you sure she’s up to the task?

Audra: Tucker was not involved in the cover-up.

Adam: Well, he definitely covered up the cover-up. More specifically, he had you do his dirty work. You did exactly what the boss told you to do. I mean, now that is loyalty.

Audra: Yeah, it’s what any other management team would have done to protect their business.

[ Adam scoffs ]

Adam: That is exactly what Tucker said. I mean, it’s a very compelling argument. But you have to consider the source.

Audra: Listen to me. There is no need for this to blow back on any of us.

Adam: You know, the real problem is there’s no proof that you and Tucker weren’t involved from the very beginning. And now, that’s the kind of thing that could cause a scandal that you never recover from. So to me, you and Tucker have the most to lose. So, I have an offer for you. (Wheezing)

Audra: What do you want?

Adam: Isn’t it obvious? I want Newman Media.

Audra: It’s not mine to give.

Adam: Well, that is why you have to convince my father.

Audra: Oh.

Adam: That merging it with my new company is a smart and lucrative idea.

Audra: How do you expect me to do that?

Adam: Oh, come on. I am sure with all your years with Tucker, you’ve honed your skills. Very nicely.

Nate: I have total confidence in Audra to handle whatever’s thrown at her.

Tucker: Uh, your confidence is endearing, Nate. Really. Although, I suspect Victor might have a different word for it.

[ Tucker chuckles ]

Nate: What happened, Tucker? Did Audra get fed up with all your games and tell you she’s done with you? So, now you’re gonna try to undermine her?

Victoria: That’s awfully vindictive of you, Tucker.

Nate: I’d say it’s beneath you, but clearly, it’s not.

Daniel: Hey, there.

[ Tucker sighing ]

Daniel: Hey, Tucker.

Tucker: Hey.

Daniel: You know, man, I’m not really sure what your game is with my mother, but do me a favor. Stay away from her.

Phyllis: I’m not just going to blindly accept some plea deal from The Bug. I mean, she only said that she would– well, she might consider not pursuing charges against you.

Summer: And you don’t trust her.

Phyllis: What? I’m not gonna bargain my life away without protecting you.

Summer: Mom, don’t listen to Daniel. I don’t need you to protect me.

Phyllis: You know, this makes me so sad. That you and Daniel are at odds again.

Summer: I know. But you’re gonna keep fighting this, right?

Phyllis: Of course. It’s what I do. I keep fighting, of course.

Summer: Mom, I– I need you to tell me the truth. Everything.

Phyllis: Okay, yeah.

Summer: This has all felt a little too convenient. Carson, the EMT coming back and turning out to be the only person that could possibly exonerate you. And now, you’re in the mix with Tucker? I–

Phyllis: Yeah, it– listen, listen. Tucker, you don’t have to worry about him.

Summer: I’m not worried about him. I am worried about you. Okay? You came to me for help, right? And now, I need you to be honest with me about everything. Seriously, Mom. No more lies.

Christine: I resent you making these accusations about me. It’s hurtful and I actually feel like you owe me an apology. As an attorney and as someone I thought I had a bond with.

Heather: I was speaking to you on behalf of my client, one professional to another, but now you’re going to invoke our connection to manipulate me into backing down–

Christine: Heather, you know that’s not what I’m doing. You don’t owe Daniel’s mother this kind of blind faith.

Heather: I was really wanting to believe that you wouldn’t take advantage of a situation to settle an old score, but I have lost all confidence. This is– this is bordering on the territory of prosecutorial misconduct.

Christine: Oh, my god, that’s ridiculous, I– you’re serious?

Heather: Dead serious. Christine, I’m going to the judge with a motion to have you removed from the case.

[ Christine sighing ]

Update written by Suzanne and Barbara

Lily enters the Chancellor Mansion to find Devon seemingly lost in thought. She greets him and asks if he didn’t hear her knocking. Devon apologizes for his absentmindedness. Lily brushes it off and asks what’s caught his interest. Devon explains that he finds the potential for product development and growth in Asia and South America intriguing. He suggests expanding their offices there. Lily playfully remarks on his passion for the topic, and they share a light moment.

They continue to chat about their office and how it feels like home now. Devon mentions his excitement about his son, Dom, being able to play in the halls in a couple of years. Devon reveals that Tucker and Ashley are planning to have their wedding at the house, so Lily jokes about needing to put away breakables for the Abbotts’ wedding.

Meanwhile, Ashley and Abby meet at the GCAC; Abby seems stressed. Ashley apologizes for the feud and expresses her desire to end it for the sake of the family. Abby questions Ashley’s sudden change of heart, but Ashley assures her that she is tired of the drama and wants to focus on her future and her plans with Tucker. Abby seems worried that her mother is giving up, but Ashley reassures her that she is committed to mending relationships within the family.

Later, Sharon meets with Adam to discuss office space for their new company. Adam appears distracted and shares his feelings about Sally, confessing that he still cares for her despite her being with Nick. Sharon advises him to let go of the past and focus on their new venture together. She encourages him to talk about his feelings, but he insists on keeping it a business conversation.

Phyllis confronts Tucker about having evidence of a scandal at McCall Unlimited. Tucker seems unbothered and challenges her, stating that he can call her bluff and is not afraid of any rumors. Phyllis warns him about going public with the scandal, but Tucker remains unfazed and leaves.

Ashley and Abby continue their conversation about the family feud, with Abby expressing her concern that her mother’s change of heart might be insincere. Ashley assures her that she genuinely wants to mend the family relationships and move on. Abby promises to give her mother a chance.

Devon and Lily talk about their relationships, with Devon mentioning his improved relationship with Tucker and his willingness to be the best man at Tucker’s wedding. They discuss how they have overcome their own family drama and how Abby is now stuck in the middle of the Abbotts’ feud.

Phyllis runs into Daniel and shares the news about the D.A.’s offer. Daniel urges her to take the deal and face the consequences of her actions. He expresses his frustration with her behavior and the impact it has on Summer’s life.

Abby encourages Ashley to make peace with Jack for the sake of the wedding and the family. Ashley agrees to try and mend things with Jack and promises to focus on the bigger picture.

Devon and Abby discuss the wedding and the need for everyone to come together. Abby is determined to ensure that the wedding goes smoothly, even if it means convincing Jack to put aside his anger towards Tucker.

Lily consoles Daniel, who is worried about his mother’s decision-making and the potential consequences for Summer. They both hope that Phyllis will make the right choice and learn from her past mistakes.

Lily: Devon? Hello? Did you not hear me knocking?

Devon: Sorry.

Lily: That’s okay. What’s, uh, so interesting?

Devon: Uh, the fact that we have a lot of room for growth in Asia and South America when it comes to product development. I think we should think about expanding our offices there.

Lily: You love this, don’t you?

Devon: I– I don’t hate it.

[ Lily laughing ]

Lily: Well, maybe it’s this place that inspires you.

Devon: Yeah. Maybe. It’s starting to finally feel like home.

Lily: And what’s great is that you can take breaks to hang out with Dom when you’re not working on figures.

Devon: That’s the best perk ever.

Lily: I can really see him zooming down these hallways in a couple of years.

[ Devon chuckling ]

Devon: You better believe it. And we plan on having family over often too. As a matter of fact, uh, Tucker and Ashley are gonna have their wedding here, or at least that’s the plan.

Lily: Wow. Are all the Abbotts coming because then maybe you should put away the breakables.

Devon: Yeah.

Ashley: Hi.

Abby: Hi. Am I late?

Ashley: No. Are you okay? You seem stressed out.

[ Abby sighing ]

Abby: We need to talk about last night.

Ashley: I want to apologize to you for how the whole thing has unfolded. This feud has just spiraled out of control and it’s time to end it.

Abby: End it how? By putting down the sword or by blowing things up?

Ashley: I’m not talking about annihilation. I’m talking about peace.

Abby: Really?

Ashley: Yes, really. Why, you don’t believe me?

Abby: It’s just a complete 180. What’s really going on here?

Ashley: Okay. I guess I’m tired of screaming into the wind. And this feud, it’s taken a toll on everybody and it’s been very unfair to the people I love most, namely you. And so it’s time to let it go.

Abby: I hear that you’re saying that, but can you actually do it? Can you actually accept that Diane is a part of Uncle Jack’s life and a part of jabot?

Ashley: I am going to focus on my future. Jack and Diane can keep doing their little dance and I’m not gonna let it define me. I’ve got big plans, you know.

Abby: Okay. Now, I’m really worried.

Ashley: Honey, they’re good plans. I mean, starting a company with Tucker is very exciting, right? I’m taking charge of my life.

Abby: And it kind of sounds like you’re giving up and that’s not something that you do, so…

Ashley: I want you to know that life is too short to let these grudges consume me. All right, my intentions are genuine. I promise.

Adam: Hey, come on in.

Sharon: Hi. Um. All right. I’ve been doing some research on office space for Adustus and I thought that we should discuss our options.

[ Adam sighing ]

Adam: Office space. Right. Right. Um, well, what have you found so far?

Sharon: Um, Victor is willing to make space for us at Newman Tower, but I thought that it’s important that we have our own dedicated space. You know, proximity is great, but we need a fresh start.

Adam: Mm-hmm. I agree. Mm-hmm, it’s essential for us to have a space that represents our values and our vision. So, what other locations have you looked at?

Sharon: A few places on the other side of town. An entirely different atmosphere than Newman.

Adam: That sounds great. Whatever you think is best, Shar.

Sharon: Is everything, okay? You seem a little out of it today. Don’t tell me you’re already bored with the company.

Adam: No, I’m fine. I’m just– I’m dealing with some personal stuff.

Sharon: Such as?

Adam: Look I– I– I think it’s best if we just keep this a business conversation.

Sharon: Okay, but if you’re distracted, maybe it’s something you do need to talk about and work through so that you can put all of your attention on business.

Adam: I can compartmentalize. I promise. You have all my focus. So, just tell me about this new spot. What are the pros, what are the cons?

Sharon: Adam, there is a lot at stake here, including some significant financial investments. We need to be transparent and deal with any issues head-on. Is there something you need to tell me?

Phyllis: Come on, Tucker.

[ Phyllis clears throat]

Phyllis: I tell you that I have dirt on McCall Unlimited and you say nothing. Is there so much filth that was swept under the rug that you don’t know what scandal I’m talking about?

Tucker: Phyllis, scandals come and go. It’s all part of the game. Are you sure this isn’t just another baseless rumor?

Phyllis: I have evidence to back me up.

Tucker: You realize if you test me, I am gonna call your bluff.

Phyllis: So, you’re okay if I go public with this? That your company covered up statutory rape? I just want to make sure you’re aware of the terms and that, you know, at this very moment, I’m very much in charge.

Abby: Mom, I just– I can’t shake the feeling that this change of heart is– is just one of your strategies. I mean, last night, you were adamant about your opposition to Jack and Diane. I really hope that you’re not trying to placate me.

Ashley: Do you really see me as being that deceitful? Have I done things in the past that have made you doubt my integrity?

Abby: No. And I have always admired your strength, but this feud with Diane and– and your desire to hurt Uncle Jack, I mean, it seems petty and beneath you.

Ashley: I agree. That’s why I’m moving on. I’m tired of the drama.

Abby: So, you’re just gonna drop the anger and the bitterness, just like that? Can’t you see why that’s hard for me to believe?

Ashley: What I see is that my behavior has tainted your opinion of me and that’s– that’s really incredibly hurtful. I hope you know that everything I’ve done has been for the good of our family, Abby. I mean, every single thing I’ve done is to protect my father’s company. Now, I understand that I haven’t handled it well and I’m sorry for that. And I want to apologize to you and I want to mend that with you. I mean, I even want to fix the relationship I have with my brother. I really do. It’s just– it’s complicated and it’s gonna take a lot of time, but I’m here for it. I mean, I really want that.

Abby: I want that too.

Ashley: Well, then just give me a chance, right? I mean, that’s all I’m asking for.

Lily: Their wedding here in this house? That kind of feels like a statement. I’m just not sure of what.

Devon: Yeah, well, maybe. This is– this is Tucker’s mom’s house, so that part of it makes sense. And it’s Abby’s mother and my father and they’re sure as hell not gonna have the wedding at the Abbott mansion.

Lily: Yeah, that’s true.

Devon: I actually think there’s an upside to it being here just ’cause it is Katherine’s home. I’d like to imagine that everyone would be on their best behavior. And Ashley and Tucker can get married and Ashley’s family can be here without there being any drama.

Lily: Well, you don’t sound so sure.

Tucker: I mean, I just know how much Ashley hates Diane and how much Jack doesn’t like Tucker. And honestly, I think that Ashley just wants to blow up Jabot to make a point. So, there are some concerns.

Lily: God, this is making me nervous and I’m not even gonna be here.

[ Devon chuckling ] Unless this is your way of getting Tucker to play nice?

Devon: Uh, actually, no. Originally, Abby thought that Tucker was the one forcing the issue with Jabot, but now she thinks it’s completely her mom.

Lily: Well, it could be Ashley’s fight under Tucker’s influence.

Devon: Yeah, but I don’t think Tucker’s influence has been negative. I think he’s been trying to do his best to keep the peace and support Ashley where he can. I think he’s genuinely trying to be a different person now that he’s in love. He asked me to be his best man and I said yeah.

Lily: Wow. So, you two are getting along now?

Devon: Yeah. I don’t think I’ll ever completely trust him, but when it comes to this Abbott family war, he’s not stirring the pot.

Lily: Well, we ended our family drama and now you’re in the middle of another.

Devon: Mm. Yeah. You’re not wrong. Uh, but the person this has really been affecting is Abby, just ’cause she’s stuck in the middle of it and it’s her family, you know. And if things escalate and she gets stuck in the fallout, I don’t know how I’ll forgive any of them.

Phyllis: Well, it looks like I have your attention, huh? So… I need Carson, I need him now.

Tucker: I do have some vague idea to what you were alluding, but it had nothing to do with me. I was already out of commission by then.

[ Tucker clears throat ]

Tucker: In fact, I had already sold the company, so… if anyone takes a hit from a public scandal, it’ll be Newman Enterprises, not me.

Phyllis: Well, you sold the company, that’s true, but at the time you were the captain of the ship and the buck stops with you. So, if you’re vague about this, uh, let me refresh your memory. Um, there were certain emails that fell through the cracks. Um, they expose your involvement. Everything with the singer, it seems it was resolved, but your hands definitely are not clean. So, do you want this hanging over your head as you move forward?

[ Tucker scoffing ]

Tucker: You do what you have to do, Phyllis.

Phyllis: I don’t want this to get ugly. I really don’t. You underestimate me. You’re underestimating me right now.

Tucker: Just out of curiosity, what were you and the D.A. talking about earlier? Yeah. You think you have it all figured out, don’t you? But it seems to me, I’m not the one in danger here, am I?

Sharon: Adam, we’re embarking on this new venture together, so I need to know that you’re fully present. Maybe we should just talk about whatever this is that’s bothering you.

Adam: It’s Sally. She looks at me with pity if I so much as hint that I still care about her, Sharon. And on one hand, I know that I have to let it go.

Sharon: But on the other hand?

Adam: It feels like a mistake because she brings out the best part of me. I mean, isn’t that a good thing? That I want to be a better person? Isn’t that what everybody wants me to do?

Sharon: Adam, you see yourself as this dark and broken person, but you know, you’re a better man than you were and Sally had nothing to do with that. She saw that in you. Sally is with Nick now. She’s recovering from her terrible loss with his support. Now, there is support for you too, if you want to take it, but hanging on to a love that has no chance is only gonna hurt you more.

Adam: Sally and I, we belong together. What we shared, it was real and it was powerful. The only reason that she’s even with Nick is because she thinks he’s a safer choice. It’s not because they’re actually in love, Sharon.

Sharon: That sounds like wishful thinking. You don’t get to decide what’s in Sally’s heart or in Nick’s.

Adam: [ Scoffing ] Sharon, the whole town knows that Nick still loves you. You’re his one true love. I mean, if– if he would just see that and embrace it, everything would just fall into place.

Sharon: Okay, what is that supposed to mean?

Adam: What are you talking about? Am I wrong?

Sharon: Um, if this is the way that you see Nicholas and me, how are we supposed to work together? This company means a lot to me, Adam. It’s very important. I am ready to create something extraordinary and I would like to do so with you and Nick, but maybe we do need to reconsider things because frankly, we have all been through hell recently. All three of us and Nick and I are ready to move forward. How about you?

Phyllis: You are so sweet to be worried about what Christine was saying to me. A trial date has been set. That means it’s crunch time for my defense. It’s crunch time for you.

Tucker: Yes, but only one of us might land in a cell.

Phyllis: Hm. I wonder what Ashley would think of all of this if you were dragged through the mud? I mean, I have the email, so you’re liable.

[ Phyllis chuckling ] This is a game changer and you know it.

Tucker: This leverage you think you have means nothing to me. Our deal is off.

Phyllis: Oh, are you sure about how Ashley feels about you and her affections? Because I think that when she hears about this, she’ll have no use for you professionally and personally and she’ll drop you like a hot rock.

[ Sighs ] Don’t force my hand. You need to respect our deal. I can impact your life. You know that.

Tucker: You can’t touch me, Phyllis.

Phyllis: Hey, babe. What are you doing here?

Ashley: You are the most important person in my world and I never want to lose your trust. I never want to lose your loyalty. I’m never gonna like Diane.

[ Both chuckling ]

Ashley: I just won’t. I’m not gonna trust her, but I promise you that I am done with these pointless battles.

Abby: Then, just walk away. You can’t keep living your life with this resentment. It’s not healthy.

Ashley: I agree. And that’s what I’m doing. I’m taking my portion of the company and I’m parting ways from jabot forever and I am moving on with my life. I’m getting on with my life. I promise you.

Abby: So, you promise you’re just gonna let it all go and just move on?

Ashley: I am committed to mending things with our family.

[ Adam sighing ]

Adam: I believe in your vision, Sharon. I have complete faith in you and what you want to accomplish. But just because I’m pointing out the obvious doesn’t mean I want to destroy this partnership.

Sharon: Oh, Adam, you need to get rid of these delusions, okay? Yeah, Nick and I have a special bond. That’s because of our history and our children. That doesn’t mean that there’s some romantic future in store for us.

Adam: It’s all right there. It’s waiting for you both.

Sharon: You’re wrong, about all of this, okay?

Adam: Okay, well, you may be done with Nick, but Nick is not done with you, okay? I saw it, Sharon, the night that Sally lost the baby. What was his first instinct? It was to protect you and Faith from that madman Kirsten.

Sharon: Nick was concerned about his daughter and he had no idea what was going on with Sally.

Adam: But he loves you. He’ll always love you, Sharon.

Sharon: Stop it, Adam. Okay? Stop.

Adam: Hey, you’re not saying that there’s no love. Maybe it’s dormant, but it’ll never die, okay? Life, it’s precious and it’s short and love is rare. Just don’t throw it away or just avoid it.

Sharon: Okay, you are crossing the line. I know how I feel and I am not gonna let you manipulate me or turn me into some kind of wedge between Nick and Sally. I’m not going to be a pawn in your game.

Adam: I’m sorry, I– Sharon, okay? It’s not what I meant. I respect you too much to try to manipulate you.

Sharon: You know what, I’m sorry. That was my mistake. I actually should have never pushed you into talking about what is bothering you. You are entitled to your feelings. But if that ends up impacting this partnership, it is going to be a problem. It’s time to move forward and focus on our own lives.

[ Adam sighing ]

Devon: So, how are things going with you and Daniel? Tell me all about it.

Lily: They’re good. They’re really good. Thank you. Yeah, we had our first official painting night, which was nice. It was fun to do something different.

Devon: Mm-hmm. You any good? You like Michelangelo?

Lily: Oh, no, I’m definitely not. I’m not painting any chapels anytime soon.

[ Devon chuckling ]

Devon: I’m just happy to hear that you’re moving on from Billy.

Lily: Yeah, I mean, with Daniel it’s easy, you know? He’s going through something, he lets me in. There’s no games.

Devon: That’s good. It’s what you need to have. You deserve to be happy.

Lily: Yeah, I’m happy for you too. You and Abby have come a long way.

Devon: We have. Sometimes simplicity and happiness is all you need.

Lily: Amen to that. That’s true.

[ Lily chuckling ]

Daniel: So, saw you talking to Tucker. Why would you even give that snake the time of day?

Phyllis: Oh, listen, it’s nothing I can’t handle.

Daniel: That’s not what I asked.

Phyllis: Okay, we have bigger problems. Christine is after Summer.

Daniel: What are you talking about?

Phyllis: She’s accusing her of aiding and abetting. She wants to prosecute both of us.

[ Daniel sighing ]

Daniel: Yeah, I knew that this was gonna happen. I knew that not only were you putting yourself at risk of going to prison, but you had to drag Summer into it too. Who knows, maybe even me. Right? I mean, it just– just never stops with you.

Phyllis: No, no, no, no, I didn’t want any of this to happen. All I was doing was trying to protect us.

Daniel: Oh, trying to protect us? How did that work out for you? Huh? You just never know when to quit, do you?

Tucker: Hey, Adam. Sharon, hi.

Sharon: Hello, Tucker.

Tucker: How are you doing?

Sharon: Good. Um, I– I was just leaving.

Tucker: Oh, I hope I’m not scaring you away.

Sharon: No, no. Not at all. Um, Adam, I will call you if I have any updates.

Adam: Sounds good.

Tucker: Bye. All right, nice pad.

Adam: Thanks.

Tucker: So, how’s the restructuring of the company going?

[ Adam sighing ]

Adam: Well, I could tell you all the details, or I could just tell you what you want to know. Let me guess, you talked to Phyllis.

Tucker: I did. She claims to have stumbled upon some information in old McCall email files.

Adam: Oh, yeah? What kind of information?

Tucker: Uh, you know, the kind that could potentially cause me a bit of trouble if exposed?

Adam: Well, that’s interesting. Anything worthwhile?

Tucker: What does she have, Adam?

Adam: This or that. An email or two. Maybe more?

Tucker: Hm. And what’s in it for you, if I may ask? And why help Phyllis of all people?

Adam: Well, I have my reasons. But you’re right, none of them have anything to do with you. So, why don’t we just cut to the chase? What do you want from me?

Tucker: I have a proposition. A mutually beneficial arrangement if you’re willing to listen.

Adam: Well, I’m always willing to listen for at least a minute or two. But remember, I’m not gonna be easily swayed. So, you’ll have to convince me that your proposition is worth longer than that.

Tucker: I’m a simple man, as you know, and I’m just here to offer a simple deal.

Adam: Go on.

Tucker: As you know, I can make things happen.

Adam: That’s a little vague for my taste.

Tucker: Why overcomplicate things? Why don’t you just tell me what it is you’re after?

Adam: Keep Phyllis out of prison. And I never even heard the name of that singer that you’re so worried about.

Tucker: Why? You don’t think she deserves what’s coming to her?

Adam: Again, I have my reasons and you’re obviously bothered enough to come all the way up to my apartment to try to sway me. So, release the witness, Carson, to Phyllis and we are good. So, why don’t you think about it and let me know? Oh, soon.

Phyllis: I don’t think you understand the complexity of the situation.

Daniel: You know what I understand is nothing with you is ever simple.

Phyllis: Christine made me an offer.

Daniel: What’d she say?

Phyllis: Well, I haven’t agreed to it yet, but she said that if I plead guilty, she’ll leave Summer alone.

Daniel: Do it. Just do it.

Phyllis: Well, it doesn’t fix everything.

Daniel: You have been talking about trying to make amends and trying to fix things, right? This is the chance that you’ve been begging for. Christine is offering you an opportunity to make this right. Make this right by– by showing that– that you are taking responsibility for your actions.

Phyllis: Listen, I want to protect you kids. I really do. I don’t want you to suffer because of my mistakes. Trust me, I don’t. But it’s not as easy as being guilty or being innocent. There are so many variables.

Daniel: God, Mom, this just sounds like more excuses to me. I– I get that you’re scared. I understand that. But do you really want to see Summer arrested? You want to watch her get cuffed and booked and charged with aiding and abetting because of something that you did?

Phyllis: Okay, listen, there’s just got to be another way.

Daniel: No, no, no, no, no, there is no other way. This is it. This is the way and that you can’t just instinctively say yes without even questioning it. It– it– it’s making me a little crazy, I’ve gotta tell you. I, just– please, Mom, for once in your life, just do the right thing.

Abby: Our family means everything to me and it hurts so much to see all of the tension and bitterness between everyone.

Ashley: I feel the same way.

Abby: Well, I mean, the things you say and do towards your brother paints a different picture.

Ashley: Okay. It was never my intention, ever to tear the family apart.

Abby: Mom, I need our family in one piece. And if you want this wedding to be meaningful and sincere, you have to make peace with Uncle Jack. And not just for the sake of a truce, but for genuine love within the family.

Ashley: Yeah, I don’t want our wedding to be, you know, a battleground for animosity. I want it to be a celebration of love. So, I– I will try to mend things with Jack so that we can be there as a family for each other. Okay?

Abby: Okay. I believe in you.

Ashley: Thanks.

Abby: I do. You deserve happiness.

Phyllis: You do not know Christine like I know Christine, okay? The only reason she is offering me a deal is because she’s trying to avoid this case going to trial.

Daniel: So what? If it means that Summer isn’t arrested? Isn’t that enough? I mean, I just, I– I don’t understand why you can’t accept the fact that you’ve been caught and it’s time to take responsibility.

Phyllis: Christine is afraid because heather has built a very, very strong defense for me. Heather is hell bent on keeping me out of jail. Heather believes in me. So, I think that I can protect Summer and I can walk free at the same time.

Daniel: I bet Tucker has something to do with that. Oh, my god. [ Sighing ] You really– you’re making deals with Tucker McCall. That’s just fantastic. You’re really ready to gamble Summer’s future and her freedom?

Phyllis: It doesn’t have to be like that.

Daniel: You’re right, it doesn’t have to be like that. This whole situation keeps spiraling more and more out of control because you have not learned from the past.

Phyllis: I understand that I’ve done horrible things in my past. I get that, but I have always, always tried to protect my kids and that’s what I am trying to do.

Daniel: Okay. Sure. You know what, you haven’t changed at all? You may have killed stark in self-defense, but you’ve committed countless other crimes, including faking your own death and all of that was of your own accord.

Phyllis: Daniel.

Daniel: No, don’t Daniel me, just do the right thing. Take the damn deal, face the consequences and start making your amends.

Ashley: I can’t make peace with Jack by myself. He has to want it too.

Abby: Of course he does. I mean, I’m sure he would want things to go back to the way they were.

Ashley: And as much as I hate Diane, you realize that he probably hates Tucker even more?

Abby: Okay, yes, I’m sure that there probably shouldn’t be any family barbecues anytime soon, but I think that we can make some steps to heal together.

Ashley: Well, getting near any kind of an open fire would not be a good idea at this point. Do you want to do me a favor?

Abby: Sure.

Ashley: Okay, want to try reaching out to Jack and see if you can bring both sides together?

Abby: I will do whatever I can to bring peace to the situation.

Ashley: Okay, try to convince him to come to the wedding. I don’t want him to hug Tucker and I definitely don’t want him giving any speeches. Can you imagine that nightmare? But, you know, Jack’s my brother. I’d like him to be at my wedding.

Abby: I promise to try.

Ashley: Okay. Thank you.

Daniel: Hey.

Lily: Hey, so what’s wrong?

Daniel: Oh, you know, I just ran into my mother.

Lily: Oh, god. What now?

Daniel: The D.A. offered her a deal. Plead guilty and Summer won’t face charges.

Lily: Is she gonna take it?

Daniel: I don’t know. She said she’s going to consider it, but you know her, she’s always working some angle trying to figure out a way to manipulate the situation and come out on top. It’s just always about her, you know, no matter what the consequences are for the people she claims to love.

Lily: Daniel, I’m sorry. I know it’s hard when someone you care about doesn’t care about anything but their own issues and emotions.

Daniel: I just, I– I can’t even look at her when she’s like this. She’s constantly talking about how much she loves us and how much she wants to protect us over and over and over again, but now, Summer’s life is hanging by a thread and she needs time to think.

Lily: Well, maybe she’ll make the right choice.

Daniel: Oh, boy. Wow. Well, we both know that that’s a hell of a maybe.

Lily: Okay. Well, what I do know is that you are Summer’s brother and I know that you’ll do everything in your power to protect her.

Daniel: Yeah, you’re right. I mean, Summer deserves better. She’s already lost so much. I’m not gonna let my mother’s actions dictate her future. Think it’s time I stepped up to protect my sister, even if it means standing up to my own mother.

Sharon: Hello, Phyllis.

Phyllis: Sharon.

Sharon: So, looks like we might be working together.

Phyllis: Might?

Sharon: Well, depending on the outcome of your trial.

Phyllis: Oh. You sound optimistic. Does no one have faith in me these days?

Sharon: Well, it’s not about lack of faith. It’s the legal system. You know how unpredictable that can be. We’ve both faced our fair share of challenges. But I know you have support no matter what the outcome.

Phyllis: Thank you. Nobody believes I can beat this, do they?

Sharon: Well, we all hope for the best. Of course. But, you know, you do have a deep history of getting yourself involved in some uncomfortable situations. And then, you get yourself out of them as well. So, I suspect you have something up your sleeve.

Phyllis: Yes, I always do.

Devon: Hey.

Abby: Hi.

Devon: How’d your talk with your mom go?

Abby: Oh, good, I think. You know, she’s determined to make peace with Uncle Jack.

Devon: Well, that’s good. Right?

Abby: Yeah, I think.

Devon: Why wouldn’t it be?

Abby: We went back and forth and she wants me to trust her. I’m almost there.

Devon: Just not all the way yet?

Abby: Cautiously optimistic.

Devon: Okay. Well, that’s good. Optimistic is good.

Abby: Yeah.

Devon: Hopefully, your mom will realize the importance of putting an end to this vendetta and start focusing on the bigger picture.

Abby: You know, I want this wedding to go off without a hitch, which means that everyone has to come together.

Devon: Everything will come together. I promise you.

Abby: That means that Uncle Jack has to put aside his anger for Tucker, at least just put it in a box for a day.

Devon: Do you think he will come around?

Abby: I won’t stop until he does. I will do whatever it takes to make sure this wedding doesn’t go down in flames.

Lily: Look, I really want to tell you that it’s all gonna work out.

Daniel: But, you know, it might not because my mother can be incredibly selfish at the worst possible times.

Lily: Well, yeah, and it’s not just unfair to Summer. It’s unfair to you. It’s causing you all this unnecessary stress. It’s like she completely disregards all of the potential consequences involved.

Daniel: Yeah, and I get it. I mean, she’s always just looking to figure out how to get what she wants, regardless of how it affects the well-being of the people around her. I cannot sit back and watch Summer suffer because of her choices.

Lily: I really commend you for taking care of your sister. I think you’re an amazing brother and, you know, all we can do is try to figure out a way to ensure Summer’s safety and well-being.

[ Daniel scoffing ]

Daniel: You got any ideas?

Sharon: Phyllis, I think it’s time you finally face the consequences for everything you’ve done to people in your past. Your actions have finally caught up with you. It’s time to take a long, hard look at yourself and where you have wound up.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. Listen to you. Wow, being all judgy with your comments and your answers for me.

Sharon: Well, no, look at how tense you’re getting. You see, it’s because you know that the right thing to do would be to take accountability, but that goes against every fiber of your being. So, you’re in conflict with yourself.

Phyllis: Okay, well, listen to you. Uh, you’re stuck between Nick and Adam, again. Is that familiar to you?

Sharon: You listen carefully. Nick, Adam, and i have something serious and potentially wonderful in motion. We’re not gonna let you disrupt it. No. If you want to be a part of it, you just have to beat the charges. And for once in your life, play by the rules.

Adam: Hey. Hey, hey, hey. What is going on here?

Phyllis: Nothing much. Sharon and I are discussing the importance of playing by the rules.

Adam: Okay. Well, we all have our pasts. We have our mistakes, so we can make this work.

Phyllis: Yeah, it’s going great so far.

Ashley: So, I think I was able to smooth things over with Abby without lying too much. I mean, it was more like lying by omission.

Tucker: Excellent.

Ashley: And it’s the truth, right? Because with Billy involved, then I’m not directly in the fight anymore.

Tucker: Yeah, if we can trust Billy. But I’m glad you’re feeling confident.

Ashley: Yeah. I can convince Billy that the upsides are fantastic about getting involved with us. We all want the same thing, to protect the company.

Tucker: Yeah, ’cause we can’t trust Phyllis anymore. She’s become more of a liability than an asset.

Ashley: How so?

Tucker: Uh. [ Exhaling ] Don’t worry. It’s nothing I can’t handle.

Announcer: Next week on “The Young and The Restless”…

Audra: It’s as much in your interest to keep the scandal buried as it is for me and Tucker.

Heather: Phyllis is my client. It’s my job to protect her.

Daniel: Even if it means Summer taking the blame?

Tucker: Can we cash you in?

Billy: I have one question.

[ Billy sighing ]

Billy: What’s in it for me?
