[ Door unlocks ] Well, there’s no cars in the driveway, no lights on. It looks like it’s deserted. It does. I don’t think the cassadines have been here in years.

[ Shouting in russian ] Charlotte. You okay? I know it’s been a while since you’ve been here. It’s not just seeing mom after so long. I’m worried about my grandmother, too. Is it safe for her to be in russia? Papa knows his way around, but I’m nervous about grandma. She’s gonna be okay. Your dad’s with her, kevin’s with her, too. She’s in good hands. You ready?

[ Monitor beeping ] Any word from your grandmother? Nothing. I haven’t heard from her either, not that I’m surprised. I mean, laura has been kind to me, but I’m not family. I just hope she’s okay. And I even managed to tear rocco away from his video games to come to my equestrian show. I won a ribbon in dressage. She was amazing.

[ Monitor beeping ] Uh, rocco’s doing amazing as well. Uh, I don’t know how, but he’s got straight a’S. All he seems to do is talk about every girl in his class. Kid’s got a new crush every week.

[ Chuckles ] Mom, you’re missing so much. I’m starting high school in the fall. I spent so many years at boarding school, but I’m happier staying in port charles now and being close to my family. And it works out for both of us because sonny thinks he has a trustworthy lieutenant, and we, you know, don’t get blindsided by his illegal dealings. Mm. Yeah, I think this is about more than getting information from dex. What do you mean? I think a part of you wants dex to protect your father.

[ Chuckles ] Okay, um… I’m not saying I can forgive or even want to forgive sonny, but… yeah, you know, a part of me still cares about him. I’ll take that as a win. Valiant, ugh, I’ve missed you! Where have you been hiding all these years, huh? I thought I lost you. No, he was just in some mislabeled box. Yeah, I was up in mom’s attic looking for, I don’t know, pieces to sell for the community fundraiser, and I saw this box — it was labeled “law books” — and I opened it up, and there was valiant just sitting right there on top of the new york penal codes. Oh, I’m so grateful you found him. Thank you. Yeah. I know it — it must sound silly, but this little guy, he meant so much to me. You were the only four-year-old on this planet who would ever name your stuffed animal “valiant,” and then you actually knew what it was.

[ Chuckles ] I mean, I-I had stuffed animals that I named, you know, like the rest of us — fluffy, stuffy, coco.

[ Chuckles ] No, one time, I must have been like 6 or 7, I-I had friends over and I showed them valiant and they all made fun of his name. No, and then you came storming in the room yelling that they were just stupid, and if they didn’t stop making fun of me, you were gonna pour… together: Maple syrup on their hair! Oh, my gosh, yes, I do remember that. And then they ran out of that door so fast. Uh-huh. That was — oh, that was wild. I think that was, like, the last time they came over to our house. Huh. Yeah. Man… I thin k I made life a lot harderfor you than it needed to be. I’m sorry. I’m not. I was proud of my big sister then, and I still am.

W-what? Yeah, I told you it was complicated. Curtis ashford was shot, and dr. Robinson thinks that the bullet was intended for my uncle sonny. So trina’s mom pretty much hates everyone related to you? Yep, with the exception of my grandmother and ace, and one of them is a baby, and the other one isn’t even in this country. I mean, I’m happy that dex is looking out for avery, but I get bad vibes from that girl. Hi. Are you there? Huh?

[ Chuckles ] Ugh, I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m just — I was… I was hoping that there would be a message from spencer. Why don’t you text him? I would, but… it wouldn’t be right. What does that mean? My mom is dealing with so much since curtis has been shot, and she never liked spencer, so I’m trying to keep my distance from him and I just don’t want to add more stress to her. But I just — but you miss him? Yeah. Look, I understand that, you know, your mom needs support, but you need support, too. I bet the only reason spencer’s not reaching out is because he doesn’t want to put pressure on you. But if you need spencer, then you should let him know. You won’t regret it. I always a ppreciated youlooking out for me. Well, it was usually the other way around. I was always jumping from one thing to the next and getting myself in these difficult situations and leaving an absolute mess in my wake, but there you were, my molly, cleaning up my messes. I just never wanted you to get in trouble. Do you remember you used to do my homework for me? You were, like, three grades below me, and you would do my homework. Mm-hmm. You would cover for me when I got in trouble with mom, comforted me when I would cry or be upset. You always took care of me, molly. Not always. I couldn’t take care of you when your abusive boyfriend, kiefer bauer, was beating you up. Mama! There’s my girl. Guess what I learned in swim class today. What did you learn? I can float on my back! Excellent job. I’m so proud of you! Avery had a terrific lesson. I could barely get her out of the water when it was time to go. Well, you know what? [ Clears throat ] So I know this is your first day, and avery seems to like you a lot, and that, you know — that’s important to me. You have a wonderful daughter, mr. Corinthos. You seem like a nice woman, but it’s obvious that your son has left you. This must be painful. I don’t believe that my son would just…leave me. He has kids. [ Sniffles ] …Going away for the weekend. I just smile and pretend it’s okay I can’t do those things with you. Sam and grandmother take me out, but… it’s just not the same. You know, I never actually told my friends what really happened to you. I don’t know why. I… guess if I just don’t tell them where you are, I could believe it isn’t real… that you’re just away for a little while and you’ll be coming back soon. So you have to wake up. We shouldn’t waste a beautiful day. As soon as ace wakes up from his nap, why don’t we take him to the park? He loves to watch the ducks. I have a better idea — why don’t we take him to the metro court pool and then we can dip his feet in the water? He’ll love it. Yes, absolutely. I just got him a bathing suit and he has a matching hat. He’ll look adorable. Great.

[ Knock on door ] Hey, uh — ava: Oh, hey, carly. What brings you here? Uh, I came to pick up avery. Yeah, she’s, um, coming with me for a sleepover with donna and josslyn. I appreciate you doing this on short notice. W-w-well, how short? When did sonny set this up? He called me just a few minutes ago. Okay, what’s going on here? Why would you bring up kiefer? I-I haven’t thought about him in years. Really? No. No, not really, that’s — that’s not true, I just don’t like to admit how often I do think about that time in my life, and I do, especially now, you know, working with troubled teens. So many of them are in abusive relationships, and… it just brings me back to kiefer, and I try to help them, but… I didn’t even help myself. I should have helped you. Molly. No. I knew something was wrong, and I should have said something. I could hear you crying in your room every night, and I knew something was wrong, and… every time I asked you if you were okay, you… you got upset and you told me to leave you alone.

[ Sighs ] A-and so I did. And I’m — I’m so sorry because I should have — I should have pushed harder to get you to open up. You have nothing to be sorry for. It’s on me. I just — I-I could not find a way to get myself out of that hole. Sometimes I wonder — I don’t know — if that’s when everything happened started, you know? When what started? My life just derailed when I was with kiefer. And ever since then, you know, I try. I try, but I’ve never really been able to, like… get it back on track, you know?

[ Exhales deeply ] Thank you for seeing me, michael. I know I’m not your favorite person right now. What can I do for you, nina? Can we make peace, for willow’s sake?

I just thought, you know, avery would like to spend some time with her sisters. Okay, whatever. The girls will be thrilled to have avery. Avery, let’s get this sleepover started. Yay! Yay! Go and get your stuff. Bye, frank. Bye-bye. Whatever. Willow and I had a wonderful visit the other day. I don’t quite remember it that way.

[ Clears throat ] Well, if you remember correctly, I was at the hospital checking on sasha, and you stepped outside, and willow and I made significant progress. What exactly does that mean? It means, michael, that willow and I communicate better when you’re not in the room. Look, nina, I’m — I’m pretty busy here, so can you just get to the point? Yes, my point is that I realize at best you just tolerate me and you wish that I wasn’t in willow’s life, but I am her mother. Yes, I know, you’ve — you’ve mentioned that once or twice. And I know that willow is now open to the idea of us having a relationship. And I’m wondering, michael, are you open to that, too? But you have gotten your life back on track. Just look what you’re doing with the youth center. Y-you’re gonna make a difference in those kids’ lives. I-I thought that made you happy. It does. It does make me happy. I just… I-I don’t know. I-I… I don’t know if I’m enough for them. I mean, these kids are — they are so desperate for help, and I don’t know if I have the — the skills and the tools to adequately help them. Soon… my center is gonna be up and running, and my name is gonna be on that building, but it’s — it’s not gonna be mine. I-I-I think that I have just been fooling myself this whole time, thinking that I could make a difference and do this and help these kids, and I… I don’t know if I can. Don’t say that. I know that you can. Molly, stop.

[ Chuckles ] You’re here with an injured leg, and — and you’re doing it again, you’re comforting me. Because that’s what I do when I love someone. And before you go and talk yourself out of being useful to these kids, just take the time to educate yourself. No one knows how to take on a project like that without experience. So — so take some classes, you know, study management, talk to people who’ve done this before. You can do this. Why are you so sure? Because… I believe in you. You just — you have to believe in yourself.

[ Exhales deeply ] Spencer told me about your dad. I’m so sorry. It must be really scary thinking he could be paralyzed. Yeah, it’s — it’s — it’s been awful. Um, I am going to go check on ace. I think he’s about to get up from his nap, and I’m gonna take him to the park. Hey, I’m so sorry for what you’re going through. How are you holding up? I’m so worried for curtis, and I’m just — I’m trying to stay strong for my mom, but I — I don’t know what to do to make her feel better. I do. Stay away from me.

Think the owner would mind if we had a look around the house? Uh, you can ask him, but I don’t think we’re gonna find any clues around here. Yeah, I guess you’re probably right. I-I did get the feeling he was telling us the truth. No, we need to regroup. Figure somewhere else that nikolas might be hiding. Yeah, but what if he’s not hiding? What if he’s being held against his will? You know, victor could have turned on him just like he turned on you and on spencer. Victor’s dead. Nikolas could be anywhere. Kevin’s probably back at the hotel by now. Come on, let’s get the hell out of here. Tough seeing your mom like that. But the doctors say that, uh, you know, maybe she can hear us. So it’s important that we’re here for her as much as we can be, you know? I know. I just want her to come home. Our home, our old house. I rode my bike there the other day and looked in the window. Yeah? It made me sad. The furniture’s covered in sheets and it’s so quiet. Not like it used to be. Yeah, we had some really good memories there, didn’t we? I just don’t like seeing it so empty. I bet mom would want someone to live there. The last thing I want is to stay away from you. I need you more than ever. You’re the thing that gives me strength to hang on right now.

[ Sighs ] I think that you’re the first person that’s ever said that to me. I don’t care what people say. They don’t know you like I do. I need you, spencer. You know that I’m always here for you. I just think that it’s gonna add a lot of stress to your mom’s life right now if she knows that I’m spending time with you. I hate to admit it, but I think you might be right. And I don’t want to stay away from you… but it’d probably be best to keep our relationship low-key for now. Yeah. Hey, I get it. I’m the last person that your mom wants to see. So, uh… I’ll steer clear of her. And then if you need me, then I’ll be here whenever. Now would be a good time. Sorry, buddy. I’d wanted to take you to the pool today, but I guess your big brother had other plans. I guess that means trina is more important than we are, right? So I guess

that meansit’s just you and me, kiddo. We’ve only got each other. Unless… mommy takes drastic steps to change that situation.

[ Sighs ] Look, nina, I will support whatever decision my wife makes. If she wants to have a relationship with you, I have no problem with that. Well, michael, your attitude says otherwise. Nina, what are you trying to say? Well, while you’re polite to me somewhat in front of willow, it is clear that you want nothing to do with me and you just want me to go away. Willow knows that, and it’s just a matter of time before wiley and amelia see it as well. I know that I have made mistakes. I just want to rectify them and make peace.

[ Knock on door ] Michael. Oh, sorry. Am I interrupting something? Hey, nina. Hey, kristina. No, no, nina was just leaving. I guess I’m just leaving. Michael, please, give me a second chance. Um… trina was here earlier and she said that she saw you and it looked like you were doing surveillance on avery and her nanny. Do you want to tell me what that’s about? Sonny asked me to guard avery and keep an eye on the new nanny, so I was tailing her. Right. Gabe just took over. Okay. But avery’s my sister, so i kind of have a right to know. I would tell you if I knew, but sonny hasn’t shared the details. But I think it has something to do with ava jerome. Please tell me that you’re not bringing carly into this, sonny. Now, you have to promise me that you are not gonna tell her what I did to nikolas. That you killed him? That — it was an accident. I didn’t mean to do it. I’m not — I’m not gonna tell carly about nikolas unless I have to. What the hell does that mean? The good thing is that — that betty bought my act. She thinks she’s spying on me, but it’s the other way around. She’s gonna lead us right to whoever’s behind this, and when I find them… they’re not gonna know what hit them.

mom, everything with kelly’s is under control. Yeah, the regulars from the waterfront are still coming in. Everything is great. Except I do have to have the guy come tomorrow and fix the freezer because it’s still leaking. And the bread was delivered two hours late, but I was able to work around that. I know, I know. I will figure it all out, I promise. I gotta go because we are busy. I love you. Bye. Alright.

[ Mumbling ]

[ Crying ] Hey. Oh. Hey. Uh… are you alright?

[ Chuckles ] No, of course you’re not alright. Is — is there anything I can do? No. No, no, finn. Um… I think it’s just… this whole thing with curtis, it’s like… it’s, like, really catching up with me, you know? And I’m not sure what to do.

[ Sobbing ]

I’ve seen other patients who’ve been given a similar diagnosis behave the same way curtis is behaving — isolating himself from loved ones, thinking that he can do this all on his own. But this patient is your husband. And you’re also dealing with the shock of almost losing him. What you’re feeling right now is valid. You’re right. You’re right about that. But I think I have to face the fact that our marriage — it’s kind of part of the problem. Yeah, but you just said it yourself. Curtis is behaving like most patients who are facing the possibility of never walking again. Yes. Yes. But curtis and i were at odds when he was shot. So now — now he’s convinced himself that I’m acting out of pity or some sort of obligation and not out of love for him. And I-it just couldn’t be further from the truth. You thought, “oh, this poor sucker needs me now”? Well —

[ Scoffs ] Well, I got news for you — I don’T. I don’t need your pity. Elizabeth, I’ve loved that man for over 20 years. I loved him when I didn’t even think I was ever gonna see him again. I mean, I’ve walked those steps a million times. I-I still don’t know how it happened, but… I was obviously distracted. If I wasn’t, I wouldn’t have fallen and missed the step and hurt my leg. Well, what made you so distracted? Well, the only thing I can think about lately — if and how tj and I should have a child. Six months ago, you didn’t even know sasha. Now you can judge her mental state? I’m a quick study. Okay, well, I don’t think that’s a long enough time to tell that someone’s actually improving or on an upward trajectory.

[ Sighs ] Okay. Well, I first got to know sasha a little while ago at the q’S. We, uh… well, we shared biscotti and we talked.

[ Chuckles ] Sasha was, uh, tentative at first, you know, kind of like, um, a rider who’s gotten knocked off of a horse but still has the courage to try and get back on. And, uh, the more I talked to her, the more confident she became and the better idea I got of how warm and open a person she is. Hmm. And you hung out with her a lot after that? Enough. Enough to keep forming the same impression of her. And she really did — she — she kept getting stronger every time. I mean, she was strong enough to — to maintain her composure when the producers of home & heart tried sabotaging her. Dude, I was there. I saw what they did to her. That’s why I’m convinced whatever the problem is here, it’s not sasha. It’s the people around her. Oh, gladys! Thank god you’re here. You gotta help me. I don’t belong here. Y-you don’t remember, do you? Remember what? What you did. What happened at the metro court. I don’t remember anything. I have no idea what’s going on.

now, I-I know that it’s partially my fault that curtis is pushing me away. I mean, I kept a secret from him for 20 years that trina might be his daughter. Trina’s whole childhood — it was robbed from him because of me. He didn’t get a chance to see trina grow up. I did. But I thought he had made peace with that revelation. Yeah. I thought he did, too. He’s building a relationship with trina. He moved back into your house. I think that proves he’s forgiven you. Yeah. No, I thought so, too. But then I found out that he kissed jordan. Wait, what? Yeah. When did this happen? When we were still living apart. But all of a sudden, things are turned around, and I’m starting to feel doubt about him. Mm. Right? And I was so hurt and angry and frustrated. I mean, I give this man space, I give him time, and this is what he does?

[ Both sigh ] That’s why I spent the night at the hospital instead of going home — ’cause I didn’t want to see him. I didn’t want to look at that man’s face. Yeah. Yeah, you have every right to be angry that he kissed his ex-wife. But being shot — I mean, as awful as that is — it doesn’t absolve him from all the inconsiderate and pigheaded things he’s ever done. Getting shot doesn’t automatically make him a saint. But he’s still the man that I love. I love him with all my heart, and — and I want to have a life with him. I really do. Whether he’s in or out of a wheelchair.

[ Sniffles ] I’m not using. Good. Good. I just want to make sure that won’t change, given your current condition. No, the doctors have me on pain medication. I told them about my history of abuse, so they’re monitoring the doses. I’m glad you’re handling it, for now. What’s that supposed to mean?

[ Sighs ] Buddy, I’ve — I’ve been there. You’re isolating yourself from all the people who really care about you. Dr. Finn, I’m just trying to work through this and figure out if this involves portia or not. Okay, so say — say you do want to go down this path on your own. Just be honest with yourself, alright? How long before you start looking for a little relief from all the pain and all the anger? How long before you just want to be alone with your drug of choice? Doc, this is not about addiction. This is about my pride as a man. I don’t want portia and trina to have to take care of me. I don’t want to tie them down at all. I refuse to be that kind of man. What kind of man would that be? Helpless. Asking for help doesn’t make you helpless, curtis. It makes you smart. Alright? Listen, I-I learned from my own experience, and I learned it the hard way, alright? You — you can’t shut out everybody. Once you accept, you swallow your pride and you accept that you can’t do this all on your own and you let in the people that really care about you, that really love you, that’s when progress happens. Not just physically, but spiritually as well. Look at dr. Finn getting all woo-woo. Don’t tell anybody, but I’m going full-on new age now. Alright? I mean, I’m thinking about getting some crystals, maybe a couple dreamcatchers. We can set them up all around the room.

[ Chuckles ] I’d pay money to see that. Me, too. But in the meantime, don’t push away the people that care about you the most. Not now. Not when you need them the most. I’ll see you around. I just assumed that you buried the hatchet, that we’re putting this feud behind us. I don’t know what kind of game you’re playing, but I told you I’m busy. I don’t have time for this. But the silver lining is you have a lot of time to go over all of your options, and you and tj can make the decision together. And when the two of you do, just remember that I will be here to listen to you and maybe someday even babysit. Dante: Oh, come on, man. Sasha said that she was ready to end her guardianship with gladys. Yeah. Well, I could tell that gladys wasn’t totally on board with that, and, of course, she denied it. And why was gladys so hell-bent on getting cody arrested and sent to prison? And do you think it’s just a coincidence that gladys sold brando’s garage to a holding company controlled by selina wu? You caught me. Better hurry. He’ll be here soon.

[ Chuckles ] “He”? The super. It’s not just my ac that’s out. It’s the power in the whole building. No, the lights in the hall… are on auxiliary batteries. Oh. Yeah. First scorching day of the year, and everybody turns their ac on full blast. The wiring in this old building can’t take it. Well, how long until the super fixes it? Usually takes him a few hours. Hmm. Well… I kind of like the candles. Oh, yeah? Mm-hmm. How about the heat? I’m sure we could find some way to deal with it. But first, I need to know what’s going on. The only reason I didn’t want you to come is because of the heat. Dex, I haven’t heard from you in 32 hours. You counted the hours? And then I don’t hear from you until an hour ago. I mean, what’s going on? It was just a surveillance job. It took longer than I expected. Dex, I know there’s more. Please tell me. I found a dead body tonight. Is this the kind of wild night you had in mind when you agreed to marry me? It’s better. All right. What about you?

[ Exhales deeply ] Well, being here together, folding our kids’ laundry — who would have thought something like this could be so perfect? It was one of the things I thought about when I was waiting for the bone marrow transplant. You thought about folding laundry?

[ Chuckles ] I know it’s silly because of all the big important things, but the little things like this that I may never get to do, it’s one of the things that kept me up at night. I took comfort thinking about being with you and our kids. Doing the little things somehow gave me hope.

[ Exhales deeply ] And I didn’t want to close my eyes because I thought I may never open them again. But I couldn’t sleep tonight because I know now that I’m going to live. And I never want to miss a single moment like this. I think this is too much, too soon. It’s only your second day of recovery since your surgery, so… this is not about the surgery. This is not about recovery. But you’re asking me to leave you, and I-it just doesn’t make any sense. I’m not asking. And I’m not leaving. I’m your wife. On paper, maybe. But we never consummated the marriage, so an annulment should be no problem. Oh, oh, really? An annulment? No, I’m not giving you an annulment. Honey, I know you’re hurting right now, but I-I love you.

am I seeing something that’s not here? Well, it’s not like gladys is some kind of criminal mastermind. I mean, brando’s garage is sitting there waiting to be sold, and maybe selina wu offered the most money for it. Mm, then what about when cody and spinelli tried to bluff gladys into changing her witness statement? Spinelli said that gladys wasn’t budging until selina wu stepped in and broke things up. Selina takes gladys aside, and then she changes her — her witness statement and drops the charges against cody? Hm. Coincidence? Well, there might be a connection, but does that mean that gladys has anything to do with sasha stabbing cody? I mean, unless you got some proof. I don’t like her.

[ Laughs ] I don– I-I don’T. I don’t, either. She just rubs me the wrong way. And I know… before you say it, I know as a pi, I should never let my personal feelings get in the way of a case, but I don’t like her, and I get the feeling that sonny doesn’t like her, either. And maybe he only tolerates her because of… mike and then brando. And now sasha. Yes. Well, you know how sonny is with family. Yeah. And you weren’t there when mike went through his worst with alzheimer’S. It killed sonny, seeing his father suffer that way. So maybe that made him more tolerant of gladys. It’s possible. Okay. So on one hand, out of nowhere, sasha stabs cody, and then on the other hand, gladys hates cody, tries to get him arrested and sent to prison for stealing a bracelet and then forms this relationship with selina? I am desperate to make a connection. Well, you’re not the only one. You told me last night in the icu room that you came to the metro court pool because of something that sam said. That you never get enough time to spend with the ones that you love. You told me that you loved me. I was on heavy medication. I didn’t think — never mind. You didn’t think? You didn’t think what? You didn’t think that there was a possibility that you might never walk again? Is that what you didn’t think? That’s not what I was gonna say.

[ Sighs ] You got a devastating prognosis last night. You really did. And I had to deliver it to you. And I’ve had to do that before with other patients, and they all react differently. But some of them react the same way that you did — going on the internet, looking at all these worst-case scenarios. A-and it just left them feeling like — why don’t you stop telling me how I’m supposed to feel? I’m trying to explain something to you, that you’re not the only spinal surgery patient to react this way. But, babe, you couldn’t be more wrong about why I’m here. I-I-I don’t pity you.

[ Sighs ] Honey, I’m here because I love you. Just — just… please. …Stop. Just stop. No, no, no, no. Because you feel like you’re alone right now, and I get it, but you’re not alone because I’m here. I’m right here. You, me, and trina. We’re gonna do this. We’re gonna face it. We’re gonna face it together. There is no way in hell that’s happening. I saw this man leaving the hospital. He matched the description of a guy sonny told me had been harassing austin the night before. I mean, that might have been who austin was talking to when elizabeth caught me outside his office. So I-I called sonny, decided to follow him, and when I got outside, I found his body in the alley. Wait, so sonny had you following austin, and then he had a meeting with some guy in his office, and a few minutes later, he was dead? Yeah.

[ Exhales sharply ] Joss. Aren’t you gonna ask me? Ask you what? If I killed him. He was enraged. He was — he was so full of hatred…

[ Sighs heavily ] …And he said that by giving spencer that recording, I had taken his baby away from him, and I-I tried to reason with him. You know, I did. But he said that he was gonna take avery away from me. He said he was a cassadine and there were places he could go where I would never find her. And then the last thing he said was, “I will tell avery that you said goodbye,” and he started to leave. Don’t you see, sonny? I had to stop him. How’d you stop him? There was a little statue on the table. Without thinking, I grabbed it, and I… I hit him. And he fell. And he was… dead.

[ Exhales deeply ] All right, you gotta tell me how this mason guy fits in here.

You said that you wanted to know more about trina. You said that you wanted to get to know her better. You said that — will you stop telling me about what I said before and listen? Listen to what I’m saying now. I will not be a burden to trina. In fact… I think it’s best if I don’t see her again.

[ Scoffs ] Our daughter was sitting outside that icu room for 24 hours straight! She was desperate, desperate to hear any word about how her father was doing. And she broke down to me, curtis. She broke down when she told me that the first words that you said after waking up were, “where’s my daughter?” You have no idea how much that meant to her. She wants to be here. She wants to help you. She wants to support you. Parents are supposed to support their children, not the other way around. Just because I’m trina’s father does not mean that she should be stuck nursing a pathetic man in a wheelchair. Do you know how many people have suffered the same kind of injury that you’ve had? And much worse. Some of them are in a wheelchair. Yes, some of them, they’re not so lucky, but their lives are far from pathetic. They know that their lives — they might not be what they had once been, but they didn’t quit. They didn’t give up on their families. Is that what you’re gonna do? If you can’t be the father that you want to be for trina, then you’re not gonna be a father at all? I was checking to see if nikolas had a pulse. And just when I realized he didn’t, austin started banging on the door. You let him in? No. No, I tried to get rid of him, but he wouldn’t leave. I told him I had a business call and I sent him up here to wait. I went down and I got a wheelbarrow. I brought nikolas out to the tack room. I-I put him in a storage closet there and I locked the door and I turned around, and austin was standing there. He’d seen everything. And that’s when he blackmailed you? No. No, he helped me. You didn’t kill him. No, I-I didn’T. I just thought maybe you would think — you never would have told me anything if you had because you wouldn’t want to lie to me. And I know that you’re always gonna do everything in your power to protect me. Everything. Is the body still there? No. I called sonny and he told me to call the cops. What? I know. I was surprised, too. I figured he would tell me to walk away, but he didn’T. He told me to call the cops and tell them what happened. Why? I’m not sure. Maybe because it was right outside G.H., He thought maybe the surveillance cameras caught me. Maybe he wanted the body found for some reason. Either way, I’m sure he didn’t think the cop who showed up would be his son. What? Did dante hassle you? He questioned me, and I just told him exactly what sonny said to say. What — so — so dante thinks you killed this guy? You’re the one who called it in. Look, he’s just doing his job, okay? But, you know, he knows I work for sonny, and if any of sonny’s guys had called it in, he would have been suspicious.

[ Exhales deeply ] Yeah, I guess. He’s also very protective of you. I get that, but I don’t need protection from you. Dante loves his father, but he knows a lot of what sonny does… a lot of what I do… isn’t exactly legal. Maybe he’s just worried that I’ll drag you into it somehow. Nothing and nobody is ever gonna come between us. You helped me so much. Your love was so important. Doctors talk about patients having the will to live. That’s what you and the kids gave me. Yeah, well, you fought so hard. Because of you and wiley and amelia, and because I was so determined to have moments like this.

[ Sighs ] And deep down, I knew I might not win that battle, but I also knew that if I didn’t, wiley and amelia would be okay. Because they had you, a father who would love them, put them first, and protect them. You know, when you wanted to talk about a future without you, I had to — I had to make myself say the things I knew you wanted to hear. I remember it was hard for you. Yeah, I mean, I knew we had to talk it through. And you were weak, and I had to reassure you, but never in my heart could I ever accept losing you. Maybe it was denial or me clinging to hope, but I just — I couldn’T… couldn’t imagine life without you. And now I don’t have to. So you’re basically saying you were right all along? I usually am.

[ Chuckles ] Why don’t you start off by telling me why you were home late? Someone reported a dead body in the alley outside of G.H. Gross. Any witnesses? Uh, one, and he was sort of cooperative and gave a, you know, pretty convincing story. Story? Yeah. Sounds like you’re not convinced. Mnh-mnh. Do you know the guy? Dex heller. Oh. Yeah. You know, one of sonny’s guys… you know, finds a dead body in an alleyway, wouldn’t you think his first call is to… to sonny. Right. And then what do you think sonny tells him to do, walk away, probably, right? But in this case, he told him to call the cops. Why would he do that? Well, was there an id on the body? Yeah, but that’s — you know, that’s on a need-to-know basis. A need-to-know basis, okay. Need-to-know basis. So this, on top of cody getting stabbed… I think maybe we need a little distraction. Yeah. Maybe we can distract each other. Oh, I think I like where you’re heading with this.

[ Knock on door ] Mnh-mnh. Go away! I think they’re gonna go away right now.

They hit the ball off the tee, so after you hit the ball, what do you do? Run. Yes. So many of his teammates, they hit the ball off the tee, but they forget to run afterwards. Oh. Randy thomas didn’t run after he hit the ball and he got out. Out isn’t good. Nope. Well, I can’t wait to see you hit the ball and run the bases. You don’t have to come. I want to. But it’s all dirty, and some of the kids might have germs, and I don’t want you to get sick again. Bud, you are so amazing to be so concerned about your mom, but she is getting stronger every single day. Mm-hmm. The doctor told me my immune system is getting stronger, too. That’s what fights off the nasty germs. So I might not be able to come to your game next week or the week after, but I will definitely be there before the season is over. Yay! I’ll have my dad and my mom there. Yes, you sure will. But, you know, for right now, it is getting very, very late, so finish your cookie and then you got to go back to bed, okay? It’s not fair. Why do I have to sleep when everyone else is awake? Well, no, amelia is —

[ Chuckles ] You’re trina’s mom. You shouldn’t want her tied down with me, either. She’s a young woman in college. You should be encouraging her to get out there and live her life. You can still be a part of her life, curtis. You’re still here. I can’t move my legs, okay? I don’t know if I’ll ever walk again. I’m not the man that you fell in love with, and I’m damn sure not the man that helped save trina from victor cassadine. And I can’t be anything less! It’s just gonna be different. How?! That’s all. Pity? No. Consolation? Support? I don’t want any of that, least of all from my daughter. All we want to do is we just want to be there for you. Yeah, but I’m the one that’s living this! If you really want to help… you’ll walk out that door right now and you won’t look back. Why would austin want to help you after finding you with nikolas’ body? He tried to get me to call the cops. But I convinced him that they would never believe me that it was an accident. Everybody knew how angry I was with nikolas. That’s for sure. After a while, austin agreed to keep quiet. And we decided that — that we would leave nikolas there in the storage closet and decide what to do later. After that, so much happened. Laura showed up here looking for nikolas, and I realized I-I had to find a way to convince everybody that he had left town. And then I had to go to curtis and portia’s wedding. I couldn’t afford to raise suspicions at all. And all the while, uh, nikolas’ body is — is in the storage closet. Yeah. Wow. Austin and I agreed to meet after the wedding. We decided that we would bury nikolas in the pine barrens. It seemed like the safest place. But that was the night that — that ryan and heather showed up and all hell broke loose. Austin was hooked, and I shot ryan. Esme gave birth to nikolas’ baby, and heather was — I get it, I get it, I get it. It was a complicated night.

[ Laughs ] Yes, yes, yes. It certainly was. And then the cops came and were swarming the island looking for clues as to exactly what happened, and it wasn’t long before they started to search the tack room. And they found a locked storage closet. Austin and i were there. We were jumping out of our skin. I tried to stall them. I told them I didn’t have a key, and… that wasn’t a problem for dante, though. He pried the door open with a crowbar. And no nikolas. At first, I thought maybe I didn’t kill him after all. But then a few weeks later, mason started toying with us. He said that he had followed austin out to the island that night, and he had seen everything. And took nikolas’ body. With my dna all over it. He’s been blackmailing me ever since. To spy on me. What are you doing out of the hospital? I, um — I checked myself out. Okay, well, we’ll check you right back in. Yeah, I’m gonna call G.H. No, no, no, no. No doctors, no hospital. What — you’re in — you’re in rough shape. I’m — I’m okay. I just overdid it a little. We’re taking you back to G.H. No, look, look, I was in the hospital because sasha stabbed me. If I go back for the same reason, it’ll just be worse for sasha. I know she didn’t mean to hurt me. Look, you said it yourself, sam. None of this makes any sense.

[ Exhales sharply ] I’ll get the bandages. Are you sure you know what you’re doing? Trying to control my asthma felt anything but normal.Relief. Like it or not, curtis, you aren’t on your own. You are part of a family. A beautiful family. Your father, your aunt. That gorgeous daughter. And yeah, you got a wife. And we love you. We desperately care about you, and not because you run around and solve cases or because you come to the rescue when anyone needs you. It’s because of the man that you are. Your family loves you, I love you, and maybe… maybe I didn’t realize how much I loved you until I thought I was gonna lose you. But sam, she was right. You never get enough time to spend with the ones that you love. And, babe, you can’t know how much I-I regret the years that you and i spent apart. See? You —

[ Sighs ] You’re wrong there. I know exactly what it feels like, regretting time spent away from someone you love. Because of your lies… it cost me so much time with my daughter. Now it’s a real party. What do you think, wiley? Amelia is too young for cookies. Well, not for long. I know, and I promise to share with her when she’s big enough. Well, you are a great big brother. You’ll be all better by then, mom. I’ll be better long before then. Amelia is lucky. She won’t have to be scared. Were you scared when I was sick? When you went to the hospital, I was afraid you wouldn’t come home. Oh. I’m so sorry that you were scared. But I love you and your sister and your daddy so much. That’s why I knew I had to come home. And I’m not going anywhere, so you have no reason to be afraid now. Can I stay up all night?

[ Laughs ] All right, I’ll tell you what — you can stay up as long as amelia does. Yay! Stay awake, amelia.

[ Chuckles ] I told you, I’m not going back to the hospital.

[ Sighs ] Well, you need to understand something, man — sasha is already in ferncliff for what she did to you. You dying, that makes it worse for her, right? So — so leaving the hospital, obviously — maybe that wasn’t the best move. I know, I just thought that…

[ Grunts ] I don’t know, man. None of this makes any sense. I-I don’t disagree with you, cody, but sasha did stab you in front of a lot of witnesses. Her being at ferncliff is best for her and everyone else. She doesn’t belong there. Well, if that’s the case, they’ll figure that out. Sasha was doing so well, she was getting stronger, and then all of a sudden, out of nowhere… well, when a person is fragile — no, no, no, see, that’s the thing — she’s not fragile. She was doing so well, and then — and then — and then it just happened so fast, and I’d bet everything that I have that this has something to do with gladys. Well, it may, but nothing’s gonna get solved tonight. You need to rest up. You’re right. I’m sorry for crashing in on you guys. I’ll call a car service, get me back to the q’S. How’s this? Sweet. How about this? It’s perfect. You still look pretty hot, though. Is this better? Getting better and better. You look hot, too. Sonny: There you go. Ava: Oh. Thank you. I think you earned it. You’ve been through hell. Still there. I told you that mason wants all the information he can get about you and this — this pikeman company. I told him I couldn’t come up with anything. And that’s when he got the idea to replace avery’s nanny with this betty, and she said that if I don’t cooperate… they’re gonna hurt my mother. I think they already have her. Nothing’s gonna happen to delia. I don’t know if it’s gonna be that easy. And I know you’re powerful, sonny, but mason, he’s genuinely afraid of these people that he works for, so they got to be pretty powerful, too. Don’t worry about it. Okay, but remember the part where mason has nikolas’ body. Okay? Because I don’t want anything to happen to my mother, but I don’t want to go to prison, you know? You’re not gonna go to prison. Your mother’s gonna be safe. I’m gonna take care of everything. I promise.

Do you know what I’ve been thinking about for the last 24 hours that I’ve been stuck in this bed? Please, curtis, don’t do it. I’ve been thinking about what my life would have been like — today — if it weren’t for your lies. Even if I were stuck in a wheelchair, I would have known my daughter for 20 years now. 20 years you took from me! I’m sorry. I explained to you — so– sorry doesn’t matter now. Those years are gone… because of you. And I can never have ’em back. So right now, right now… …I don’t give a good damn if you’re determined to stay with me through guilt or pity or because you want the insurance money. It ain’t happening. Curtis — it ain’t happening. You even have a number of references to vouch for my perfect work as a nanny. You just need to convince sonny that I’m the ideal candidate to take care of avery. [ Sighs ] All I know is that I can’t move my legs. So, yes, I am finding the internet a little bit more helpful than my doctors. Your doctors, they just don’t want to give you a premature diagnosis, curtis. Some information is better than none. I know that. Okay. But the information you’re getting online — I mean…

[ Scoffs ]

[ Sighs ] Isn’t it better to talk to a doctor with an actual medical degree? Yeah, right. Look I-I don’t mean the doctors’ protocol. You know, I — I feel like I’m being handled. Do you think that’s helping me? I understand what you’re saying. I really do. And I-I know the situation, it…

[ Sighs ] I don’t know how you feel, but I can imagine that… you’re feeling like your life is out of control.

[ Sighs ] And I know you, and I know that’s got to be hard for you. But going on the internet, looking at all these websites — can’t you see that you’re — you’re torturing yourself? It’s my phone. It’s my injury. It’s my choice.

[ Breathes deeply ] I want my phone back.

[ Sighs ] Okay. Okay. I-I’ll give you your phone back… under one condition. What? Why would they close the pool on such a beautiful night?

[ Sighs ] I don’t know.

[ Sighs ] I mean, I guess I can go inside, see if they have any tables available. Or we could stay out here and pretend like we didn’t see the sign. I’m a police officer. Who’s off-duty. Yeah, but I’m still a cop. It’s literally my job to follow and enforce rules. Yes, but I am a quartermaine, and we break the rules. Besides, my uncle sonny’s fiancée owns half the metro court, and the other half is owned by my dad’s wife.

[ Breathes deeply ] Even though my dad doesn’t currently remember who he is or even admit it. How is the eddie maine situation?

[ Sighs ] Whether or not my dad knows who he is is — is not going to be solved tonight, okay? Tonight is just for us. So in light of my special standing with the metro court owners, will you please just break the rules with me just this once? Betty has a degree in early childhood development. Her references are — are excellent. And like she said, she has experience working with kids who split their time between parents. So she — she understands that the rules might be a little bit different in each home. Sounds good. Yeah. Yeah. She’s warm and friendly, and I’m confident that she will be a very good fit for avery. Did you talk to her about avery’s hobbies? Yes, of course. Yes. We talked about how avery loves crafts of every kind, that she’s a bit of a budding artist herself. We — we’ve already talked about, uh, potential outings to the children’s museum. Well, you know, uh, I know that avery is going to miss pilar, but this confidence you have in betty really goes a long way to persuading me.

[ Laughing ] Dex. So you’re the one who called in a dead body. Well, I’m not totally sure that he’s dead. Oh. I didn’t want to touch the body, but he seems dead to me. Mm-hmm. Where is he? Follow me. Yep, it’s a dead guy. Okay. Well, we’ll need, uh, forensics down here and a cid unit. I’m on it. So what do you think, dex? Recognize him? Do you think he could be a known associate of sonny’s?

The last people you have listed here — why did you stop working for them? Lovely family. Their youngest child went into junior high, so there was no job left, really. Oh, that makes sense. Um, I don’t want to seem pushy, but another family has already expressed interest in hiring me. But how often do you get a chance to live in a castle on an island?

[ Both chuckle ] Yeah. Uh, you know what? Avery’s mom and I have a few things to discuss. Um, thank you for your time. It was great meeting you. Of course. [ Laughs ] You want to eat this bland hospital food? No, of course not. I’m talking about ordering some takeout from our favorite little italian spot.

[ Sighs ]

[ Monitor beeping ] Yeah. Uh, you know, that sounds nice. I got to be honest with you.

[ Breathes deeply ] I’m just not feeling it.

[ Sighs ] I see what you’re doing, and I appreciate it, but…

[ Beeping continues ] …I can’t fake a good mood.

[ Sighs lightly ] Look, I understand your frustration… and there are so many things about this situation that are — they’re out of our control. But there are some things that we can control, and one of those things are what we’re going to have for dinner tonight. So what’s it going to be? Your choice. A delicious pasta pomodoro or rubber chicken from the cafeteria? Pomodoro? Rubber chicken? Hmm? Hmm? You know I can’t say no to pomodoro. Good. Thank you.

[ Laughs ]

[ Sighs, chuckles ] I’m going to go order it right now, okay? Oh, oh, and a promise is a promise. Here is your precious, precious phone back.

[ Laughs ]

[ Beeping continues ] So I walk into a patient’s room, and I find amy changing a bedpan. Isn’t that what orderlies do? Yeah, that’s what I said. And then she explained that she had been gossiping about dr. Gatlin-holt and his new romance with ava jerome, and she knew it would get back to me and that I would just put her on bedpan duty, so she thought she’d get a head start and just do it anyway.

[ Both laugh ] It’s okay. You can see if the babysitter texted you. Oh, um, no, I’m being silly, right? I mean, if there was a problem, she’d call me. Finn, it’ll make you feel better. I don’t mind that you check your phone. Yeah? Yes. Okay, let me just…

[ Laughs ] One. One text from the babysitter. Um. “Violet went right to bed and didn’t ask for any extra stories.” See? Don’t you feel better? No. No, not really. I mean, this is the time of night where violet starts negotiating to stay up a little later or some extra stories. For her to go to bed just like that and not ask for anything — there’s something going on. Hmm, nothing from jake or aiden either. Mm-hmm. Wait a minute. Did you tell violet that we were having dinner tonight? Yes, I did. What about the boys? I didn’t tell them, but I have a feeling violet might have. Chase: Did you know I’ve never had an old-fashioned? Mmm. It is one of my favorite summertime drinks. Whoa, that is good. Mm. Mmm. This is so nice, isn’t it? [ Sighs ] You know, I actually went through a rebellious stage. Oh, I’m going to need a lot more details, or it never happened. Oh, I can prove it. I had a motorcycle.

[ Scoffs ] I used to go skinny dipping in a lake, and then I would spend all night at a local casino.

[ Laughing ] Wait a minute. You — you did what? You heard me. Okay. You on a motorcycle — that’s very hot. The gambling, I could take it or leave it. But, uh, the skinny dipping? I-I don’t believe that for a second. Scout’s honor. Oh, yeah? Prove it. Nothing is going on. I told you — I haven’t been happy with pilar. And I just — I’m trying to find a nanny that we can agree on — that’s all — stop right there, ava. Who’s that betty woman, and what does she have on you?

[ Monitor beeping ] Curtis: “Unfortunately, there’s no way to reverse damage to the spinal cord. Treatment can improve a person’s quality of life, but this condition can’t be cured.”

[ Door opens ]

[ Singsong voice ] I have our dinner.

[ Normal voice ] And I know that it is piping hot because I waited at the front door for the delivery guy to drop it off. Here you go. I’m sure they thought that I was [Chuckles] Waiting for an ambulance with a patient in it.

[ Sighs ] Yeah, well, I’m, uh, sure the patient is… sad he didn’t wind up with you as his doctor. Oh, honey.

[ Chuckles ]

[ Beeping continues ] Mmm! Looks so good. Yeah. Hm.

[ Beeping continues ] It’s delicious. Good call, babe. Much better than the hospital food.

[ Inhales deeply ] I feel better already.

[ Exhales deeply ] So you think violet told jake and aiden that we were on a date tonight? Yeah. Look at this text from jake. “Enjoy dinner, mom.” Seems pretty innocent. I didn’t tell him we were having dinner. I just said I would be home later. Ahh, so violet texted jake and aiden, telling them that we were out to dinner and for them to be on their best behavior so we wouldn’t have any reason to end the date early.

[ Chuckles ] Ohh. Those boys would do anything for her. Ahh. But to give them fair credit, ever since cameron went away to college, they have…gotten really good at taking care of themselves. How bad are you missing cam? I try not to focus on him being gone. It’s not like he was home much anyway, you know, between soccer and working at kelly’s and dating josslyn. The good news is, is that he’s thriving at school, and every text I get, he sounds incredibly happy. So I think it’s fair to say that he’s living his best life.

[ Chuckles ] I’m really glad cam’s having a good time. But you kind of glossed over my question. I miss him so much it physically hurts.

[ Camera shutter clicking, siren wailing ]

[ Police radio chatter ] So, dex, does this guy work for sonny or not? Man, come on. You’ll have to ask your dad yourself. Okay. How did you wind up in this alley? Well, I was leaving general hospital, and I was walking home. Through an alley? Well, I was cutting through the alley. I went to throw my cup away in the dumpster, and I saw the guy’s feet sticking out. And that’s when you called the police? No. I decided I should get some more details. And I took a closer look, saw the man’s body, saw that he wasn’t moving, and that’s when I called it in. So, tell me, dex, what were you doing at general hospital? You’re scared — I can tell. And it takes a lot to frighten you.

[ Sighs ] You know, I really thought I was covering it a little better than that. Well, for most people, but not for me. Why do you think I was playing along with saying how perfect this — this nanny was? Well, I’m glad you did. Who are they threatening? My biological mother, delia. She lives in manhattan.

[ Sighs ] They said they would target her if I didn’t get this betty a position with access to your penthouse. Son of a bitch! I’m sorry, sonny! I didn’t really have a choice! I need more answers from you. Why are they making these threats against you? What does it have to do with me? And more importantly, if it involves my daughter, why am I hearing about this now?!

What do you mean, “prove it”? Well, if you’re telling the truth and you’re so comfortable skinny dipping, then you should have no problem getting in the pool and doing it right here. What?

[ Laughs ] Look, there’s nobody here except for me, and I’ve already seen it all. So, go for it, bad boy. Okay, I’ll do it… if you’ll join me.

[ Laughs ] No, this is — this is your thing. Chicken. I’m not chicken. I’m just being a lady. Okay. I have a better idea. How about a little, uh, friendly competition? Loser has to jump in the pool… buck-naked. You know I love a good challenge. What’s the bet?

[ Laughs ] As much as I miss cameron, I know being in california is so good for him. Having his first love break his heart was painful. He needed to start over. And now he’s on the soccer team. Yeah.

[ Chuckles ] Doesn’t mean you don’t miss him. Yeah. And I’m already thinking that it’s not that far away that jake’s going to be in college, and I can’t even imagine aiden leaving me.

[ Sighs ] They’re growing up. They’re becoming more independent by the day.

[ Chuckles ] You did an amazing job raising them. Thanks. I’m really super proud of them. It does make me sad that cameron’s childhood is basically over, and soon jake and aiden’s will be, too. I’m just really grateful this head nurse position came about when it did because it’s going to keep me busy. Mm-hmm. And now you have less free time than anyone I know.

[ Laughs ] Can I ask you a question? Of course. Tell me all the things you’d do if you had all the time in the world. See? It’s good, isn’t it?

[ Chuckles ] It’s kind of making me regret letting my cooking skills slide as much as I did over the years.

[ Sighs ] I don’t think I realized how much you enjoyed cooking. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Especially when trina was younger. I would arrange my work schedule so that I could be home in time to make dinner almost every single night, barring some sort of emergency. And then, when trina got home, she would sit at the dining-room table and she would do her homework while I cooked. It was kind of our time to connect and tell each other about our day.

[ Monitor beeping ]

[ Sighs ] I’m sorry. I’m just realizing that maybe you don’t want to hear about trina’s childhood because you weren’t there and… aah. No, portia, I’m not feeling that way at all. I’m eager to learn about how trina was growing up. It makes me happy to know that you guys have such a special connection, and… I want to know all there is to know about my daughter. Good. I’ll be glad to tell you everything that there is to know about trina’s past. Because I know that you and trina, you are going to work out your future together. Yeah. I know that, too. There’s a man… mason gatlin. Gatlin as in austin gatlin-holt? Yeah. Huh. Apparently he’s austin’s cousin from pautuck.

[ Chuckles ] And he’s been pressuring me — by pressuring, I mean threatening me to get information about you and this — this company, pikeman. There’s got to be more to the story than that. Let’s go. Well, that’s the problem. I don’t know anything more. I mean, apparently mason is just following orders from whoever is really pulling the strings. Mason told me to search your penthouse. The only time I was left there alone, I tried, but of course, you’re — you keep your — your home office locked. And then pilar showed up, and that put an end to any potential snooping. I-I told mason I couldn’t give him what he wanted, and then he came up with the idea to replace avery’s nanny with a nanny he could control. So this mason’s making threats against you to get information on me. Can you just fill me in on one more thing?

[ Sighs ] Where does your boyfriend, austin… fit into this? Chase: We are going to use this bowl of nuts for our competition. Whoever can toss and catch more peanuts in their mouth wins. And the bet is the loser has to get in the pool nekkid.

[ Laughs ] Did you just say “nekkid”? You are so immature. I can’T. We are two grown adults making a bet to go skinny dipping in a pool of one of the nicest hotels. I think all of this is a little immature. Not to mention breaking the rules. I already told you I could break the rules. Okay. Let’s do this. Ladies first. Easy peasy. Alright. Do you practice this at night?

[ Laughs ] Oh! I got eight in a row. You’re up. Oh. Oh, we’re in the groove. Oh.

The driver’s license in his wallet said the dead guy’s name is gordon stevens. We’re running his prints and doing a record check to see if he has any prior arrests.

[ Police radio chatter ] Anything else? We’re still waiting on the official autopsy report. Alright. Let me know what comes back from that records check, alright? Absolutely.

[ Police radio chatter, siren wailing ] Am I free to go? Uh, no, dex, you’re not free to go. You still haven’t answered my question. What were you doing at G.H.? I was there checking on curtis ashford. Trust me, sonny, mason’s been pressuring and blackmailing austin, just like he’s been doing to me. Austin doesn’t want to have anything to do with his cousin, but so far, he hasn’t found a way to get out from under him. I-in fact, austin’s been scrambling to help me. It was austin who conveniently found avery, who got lost at the — at the park, right?

[ Sighs ] And you weren’t just a — a — a concerned mother. You immediately insisted that she was kidnapped. Well…

[ Sighs ] Austin orchestrated the whole thing as a way for you to lose faith in pilar. I had no part of the plan. He did it on his own. I had no knowledge of it whatsoever. So his goal was to get pilar fired so she would be replaced with a plant from mason. Is that right? Yeah. Oh. Okay. And believe me, I was furious about it, too. But — but please keep in mind that avery was never in any actual danger. She wasn’t even frightened. She just ran off after a balloon. Yeah. Yes. That — that’s why it makes sense that pilar got that — where she thought she got that call from her grandmother.

[ Breathes sharply ] You know what? Whatever differences we’ve had in the past, I know you would never endanger our child. No. No, of course not. Why did you not tell me about this the minute you heard they were thinking of planting a nanny to take care of our daughter? Now, I don’t know if my pomodoro was as good as the one that we just had.

[ Chuckles ] But it was still really good, if I do say so myself. Mm. Cooking for my loved ones always made me so happy.

[ Chuckles ] I can see that.

[ Sighs ] You know, I think when trina went off to college, that’s when I stopped cooking. My work schedule, it just got so busy. And then I became more and more reliant on takeout. And those food delivery apps — they’re just a little too convenient.

[ Monitor beeping ] But, um, now that I’m going to be cutting back on my hours at work, I can make it a priority to be home in time to make dinner. Why exactly are you cutting back on work hours? I think we should make it best two out of three.

[ Clears throat ] Why? I already won. Why would I mess with that? Are you saying you’re convinced that you won’t beat me again? No, I’m saying I already won. Why would I gamble on a sure thing? Unless you’re saying you’re not willing to live up to what we agreed upon. Of course I’m not saying that. A bet is a bet. And I never back out of a bet. What about the security cameras out here? You weren’t so concerned about security cameras when you thought

[ Chuckling ] Well, I appreciate what you did, and that view was spectacular — not to sound possessive, but I would like to keep that view for myself. I don’t need the metro court guests getting an eyeful. Not to mention, if you had gotten caught skinny dipping in the pool, the hotel would have called the cops, also known as your colleagues, and that would have been really embarrassing. No, that’s actually — that’s just a misdemeanor.

[ Chuckles ] But now you know… that I’m willing to break the rules — for you. Oh, this — this is so decadent and not like me at all.

[ Chuckles ] Are you talking about the dessert? The dessert. Being the last people in the restaurant. Keeping the waiter late.

[ Chuckles ] What? Are you all done? You don’t want any more? Yeah. I want more. I’m cutting back on my hours at work so I can spend more time with you here at the hospital.

[ Monitor beeping ] And I know how eager that you are to get home, but I think we both need to face the fact that your recovery is going to be a process.

[ Beeping continues ] Your prognosis hasn’t been determined yet, and we just don’t know so many things. We don’t know if you’ve lost the use of your legs in the short term… or maybe longer. But either way, we’re going to adapt. You sound like you have some very specific thoughts in mind. Well… as much as I love our beach house, there’s a lot of stairs in that house, and maybe it would better suit us to rent someplace that’s all one level. Then you don’t have to deal with any stairs at all. I don’t want us to give up our home. I’m just trying to plan for our future, babe.

[ Sighs ] You know — you know what we can do? Okay. We can hire a contractor. A contractor can come, and he can modify the house, and he can make it more livable for you. No. That’s not what you’re going to do. What do you mean? Look, if I’m never going to walk again — we don’t know if that’s the case, curtis — but it’s a likely possibility. And if that is the case, you’re not going to remodel our home. What you’re going to do…

[ Breathes sharply ] …Is let me go. Josslyn and i were in the park with trina the night curtis got shot. We took her to the hospital. And, look, trina’s been so worried about her father, and she’s joss’s best friend, so I just wanted to see how curtis was doing. Wow. That’s — that’s really nice of you, dex. I was convinced that you were doing something for sonny at the hospital. Falconeri, heard back on the records check on the victim. Wait here. Well, I guess you’re — uh, you’re free to go, dex. If we have any more questions, we know where to find you. Actually, you know what? This guy — guess he was from pautuck — did time at pentonville. Any of that ring a bell to you? If this mason character has been threatening you for months, especially when you knew it involved our daughter, why didn’t you come to me? I-I thought that I could handle it myself. I don’t buy it! [ Exhales deeply ] Good, because, uh, you remember when we talked about being more direct with one another? So, in the spirit of being more direct… I’m just gonna stop talking and — and — and come out and — and ask this. Yeah, ask away. Would you like to go to dinner with me tonight?

[ Cellphone ringing ] Hey, I can’t talk now. I’m about to meet the nanny that mason has forced on me. Everything is gonna be just fine. Have a martini. Mm, done. Well, maybe there is a reasonable explanation. Like, something important came up at the last minute. What’s more important than her seeing her daughter and her grandchild?

[ Elevator bell dings ] Don’t worry about it. I got a lot of contacts at ferncliff, right? And I’ll have somebody look out for sasha while we sort this out. Thank you. Thank you. Think of it as the ultimate holistic form of treatment. You wouldn’t just be diagnosing patients as they come through the door. You’d be diagnosing the entire hospital and helping match the right healer with the right patient. [ Glasses clink ] What’s wrong, austin? You got a problem with my toast?

[ Monitor beeping ]

[ Curtis sighs ] What do you feel, uncle curtis? I don’t feel a thing. I can’t feel anything. None of you seem surprised that I can’t feel my legs. I understand how concerned you are at the moment, but you’ve just come through very extensive spinal surgery. Honestly, you’re lucky to be alive. The bullet fragments I removed were lodged very close to your spine. You were under heavy sedation during the procedure. Every patient’s body reacts differently when that wears off. So the anesthesia is why I can’t feel my legs.

[ Sighs ] That’s one of the possibilities, mr. Ashford. Curtis, okay? Curtis. Now, please, cut it to me straight, doc.

[ Sighs ] What are the other possibilities? I still need to look at some of the test results and scans that we took after the surgery, and then I’ll be able to better answer your questions, curtis. I’ll leave you with your family now.

[ Door opens, closes ] Oh. [ Sniffles ] Did you hear what dr. Barnsdall said? Very few people would have even survived that surgery, uncle.

[ Sniffles ] If aunt stella was here, I-I think she would call it a miracle, right? Mm-hmm.

[ Whimpers ] I really respect you, sonny. You’re a powerful man, and you put such a high value on family. Nothing more important than family. No, absolutely. So, um, let me try and put your mind at ease. I haven’t spent a lot of time with avery, but the little time that I have spent with her, she’s lovely. And I-I-I think that she looks at me and sees me as not just her mom’s friend, but maybe her friend a little, as well. Avery sees the good in everybody. That’s wonderful. She get that from you?

[ Chuckles lightly ] Is that a trait she’s inherited from you, sonny? I always give people a chance. Just the one? What happens if people disappoint you? What happens when you lose a patient? Well, I think I can speak for every doctor in the world when I say that it’s, uh… it’s very hard to lose a patient. You just got to move forward. It’s sad, but some people are beyond helping. You just got to move on.

[ Sighs ] I am lucky to be alive. And I’m grateful for everything that everyone here at the hospital has done for me.

[ Sighs ] But I want to walk out of this hospital on my own, and if that’s not going to happen — that’s not what dr. Barnsdall said, uncle curtis. Yet. No one can walk right after spinal surgery. Portia’s right.

[ Sniffles ] Patients going through the same kind of surgery can take weeks before they’re able to walk. Mm-hmm. How long ’til they felt their legs again?

[ Cellphone beeps ] Okay, go. I-I know you got a job to do, man. I’m sorry. I’ll be back as soon as I can, okay?

[ Door opens, closes ]

[ Exhales deeply ] It’s gonna be okay. Yes, it will. Once I get my life back. All of it. Look, I take no pleasure in sasha’s current predicament, but cody bell’s the real victim here. Oh, come on, robert. We both know there was no intent. Sasha never meant to hurt the guy. She stabbed him with a paring knife. It’s well documented that sasha has not, shall we say, been herself ever since losing her baby and her husband. And might I point out that heather webber, who actually killed sasha’s husband, came perilously close to killing yours truly, so I would think you would have a little more…

[ Stammers ] I’m not here to persecute your client, diane. Good. Why are you here? Well, after maxie spoke to you, she then called her uncle robert. Ah. So maxie asked you to look out for sasha to make sure that she was treated fairly. Who’d have thunk it, you and I on the same team? Ha, ha, ha, ha.

[ Elevator dings ] Shall we? Yep.

[ Clears throat ] Sasha. I can’t get this off. Don’t worry about that. We’ll take care of that later. Now… tell me what you remember. There was a pool. Yes, yes. What happened at the pool? Gladys was there. And he grabbed her by the wrist. Who grabbed your mother-in-law? It was him. I saw him. H-he — he tried to ruin my life. He gave me drugs, and he — who was it, sasha? Who do you think you saw at the pool? No, I don’t think. I-I know. I saw him. He — he grabbed gladys, and I knew I had to stop him. I had to stop cyrus renault!

[ Breathing shakily ] I don’t understand. Cyrus is a murderer. I just assumed you would be separated from people like him. Where did you run into him? He found me. He wants to make me a “fisher of men.” Cyrus renault? Well, what good is a messiah complex without disciples? He’s recruiting. Did you tell him to go to hell? Better yet, you have to tell the guards. You do. We don’t know what kind of sick game cyrus is playing. You gotta stay away from him. You do not want to get on his bad side. Carly, you don’t have to worry about me. What are you talking about? You just told me some maniac has you in his sights, and you — you don’t want me worrying about you? I got this. I can take care of myself, carly. [ Cellphone ringing ] “Occupational hazard”? Alright, here we go. Nina: Okay, ava. You know — no, no, don’t get me wrong. Austin, he’s a very nice guy. Little awkward, but very nice, and there’s some kind of chemistry there, but as a couple, I don’t really see it. Yeah, you could say that. It really was. Super awkward. Lunatic walks into a restaurant, having lunch with sonny corinthos — not great. So, mason, I guess the question is, what the hell are you going to do about it? Dr. Barnsdall. Were you able to review all of curtis’ latest test results? Yes, and the final scans we took after his surgery. And? Will my uncle ever be able to walk again?

So sonny has people watching your back, huh? You don’t sound completely surprised by that. Vintage sonny. To protect me? Sonny knows that you’re a good guy, and deep down, he knows you’re good for me. Sonny and I will always be family, and at the end of the day, nothing’s more important to sonny than family. Huh. So is this his way of welcoming me into the family?

[ Laughs ] I wouldn’t go that far. Hmm. But I don’t care, I’m glad he’s doing it. Well, I’m glad he’s doing it, too, if it keeps you from worrying. I’m still gonna worry. I just want you to come home. Nothing’s more important. I’m working on that. So, what else is going on? Uh, willow came home. Really? Yeah. That’s great. It is great. And the only reason she’s okay, because you rescued liesl. The only reason willow’s okay is because of you. Well, that doesn’t ma– I’m just happy that she’s home where she belongs. She’s getting the treatment she needs from her shrink. I’ll handle this. Okay, I’m sure you mean well, but she is in really bad shape, and if you make her more upset, I swear I’ll — you’ll do what? Cyrus was gonna hurt gladys like he hurt me, and I couldn’t let that happen, so I-I saw the knife, and I picked it up — sasha, stop right there. Not one more word.

[ Door closes ] And you. Turn off that recording device right now. Austin and i have only had a few dates. Of course you don’t see us as a couple. Well, on the plus side, he’s nothing like nikolas. Yeah, well, that’s for sure. He is very — alive? What? Well, don’t get me wrong, you and nikolas, you had some connection and chemistry and… but nikolas always seemed like he was brooding and he was always serious all the time to me. At least austin — I don’t know, he’s mysteriously expressive.

[ Chuckles ] Yes, well, he’s — he’s definitely more alive. Well, he’s very attentive to his patients, because that guy earlier, gordon, was hostile, and he — you know, austin could’ve blown him off, but he took the time to, you know, deal with the problem. Well, what happened when you went out after him? I’m pretty sure… that his patient… understands the situation.

[ Door opens ] Uh, okay.

[ Laughter ] What did I miss? Oh, uh, sonny was just complimenting your bedside manner, but I’d say I’m a much better gauge of that.

[ Cellphone rings ] Gladys, I’m in the middle of something. No, sonny, it’s sasha. She’s been arrested. What the hell for? She’s getting a psych evaluation at G.H. Right now. [ Stammers ]

[ Grunts ] Alright, I’ll be right there. Wait, what’s going on? Uh, sasha’s in trouble. I gotta go to G.H. Well, I’m going with you. I, uh — I’m so sorry. No, no, no. Go. Please go. Yeah, I hope everything’s alright. Okay, we’ll talk about moving on with the nanny and all that. Uh-huh, yeah.

[ Sighs ]

[ Door closes ] Well… disaster averted. For now. It’s my turn.

[ Cellphone ringing ] Don’t answer.

[ Scoffs ] You know I have to. Boss. I know it’s your day off, but something came up. What do you need? Surveillance. Port charles grill. Austin gatlin-holt.

I love the sentiment. I really, really do. But are you saying that if you hadn’t spoken to sam, you wouldn’t — it’s — you know what? It’s done. We’re here. And what I want you to know right now is, no matter what happens, my feelings for you won’t change. And once I’m back on my feet… and you will be. You will be. But I need you to listen to your doctors. And your wife.

[ Breathing heavily ] As you can see, doctor, we were successful in removing the bullet and every fragment. You always do good work, dr. Barnsdall. But was it enough? There’s really nothing for you to worry about. Something is going on. It’s the financial penalty from the sec, isn’t it, carly? I can handle it, alright? I don’t want you even thinking about it. I don’t want

you thinking about it. That was a huge fine. I don’t want this weighing you down on top of everything else. Look, it’s really simple. I can sell aurora. No, you can’T. No, you can’t, because diane made it crystal clear that I can’t accept anything from you, michael, or sonny. I could be hit with even a bigger fine, or worse.

[ Sighs ] Well, diane knows what she’s talking about. Yeah. Did she come up with a plan b? Anything? She did — she did, but she said it’s gonna take a while, and it doesn’t matter because I-I have resources, okay? Tell me you’re not selling the house. The house is too big for me. It’s not just a house, carly. That’s — that’s your home. It was a home I had with sonny. [ Sobs ]

[ Breathing heavily ] No. Mnh-mnh.

[ Sobbing ] No! I’m not a shrink. How should I know what’s wrong with sasha? First, there was the shoplifting, now she stabs cody.

[ Stammers ] Your own journalist was there. She saw the whole thing. I-I did. I talked to elyse on the way here, and she said it came out of nowhere.

[ Stammering ] Exactly. But it doesn’t make any sense. When she was on home & heart and someone did that horrible mind game on her, she handled it. Yeah, I-I saw her a few weeks ago, and I told her that she was ready to be on her own — to end your guardianship. What changed, gladys? What changed? Ms. Miller. Police brought ms. Gilmore in for a psych evaluation. As her lawyer, I’m sure you understand what that entails and what my responsibilities are. I’m sorry, but at this point, my hands are tied. I just got off a call with judge palmer. And? Robert, please. Let me tell them. Sasha needs help. She’s being sent to ferncliff hospital for the criminally insane. I need to make something very clear, okay? What’s that? We are not a couple, and we — and we’re definitely not “lovers.” What happened at wyndemere makes us exactly lovers. Makes nothing. Makes us nothing. We’re nothing. I ju– I had A… I had a little moment of weakness, you know? I’ve — I’ve regretted it ever since. I’ve only regretted that we haven’t done it again since.

[ Groans ] You know, you have an inflated opinion… of your sexual prowess. And I assume, as a doctor, you have a need for that hand that’s creeping up my thigh? You wouldn’T. You didn’t answer my question. Sonny — he’s a jealous guy? Oh. Sonny doesn’t care who I sleep with, as long as it doesn’t negatively impact avery. Good to know. I’m assuming that you sang my praises when I was away from the table.

[ Chuckles ] And what — what — what praises might those be? Your gymnastics in bed? Oh, thank you.

[ Chuckles ] Your willingness to help bury dead husbands? I told sonny as little as possible about you, and then only what I thought he would actually believe. Then how come he didn’t buy it? Carly, what happened? Curtis was shot. What?! Is — no, no. He’s in the hospital. How bad is it? It was touch and go. I heard this morning he’s out of surgery, he’s in recovery, but I don’t know his condition. Who shot him? They don’t know. It was at the metro court pool. Was anybody else hurt? No. No, luckily. Thank god. I don’t get it. I mean, who would want to kill curtis? The pcpd isn’t sure he was the target.

[ Grunts ]

[ Breathing heavily ]

[ Exhales deeply ] Morning. I told you I wouldn’t be long. Glad you’re back.

[ Chuckles ] Could you, uh, make sure they schedule for me that therapy session as soon as possible? Sweetheart, it’s way too soon for something like that, okay? Oh, it’s never too soon. Look, I am not going to sit in this bed and wait around for another miracle. I know it’s gonna take hard work, but I am here for it. Because no matter what it takes, I am going to walk and stand up on my own two legs. And who knows? You know, someday, I can take you in my arms, and we can dance the night away again. What do you think about that?

[ Voice breaking ] I absolutely love it. Yeah. There’s something that — that I-I want to tell you. Okay, what’s — what’s wrong?

[ Sniffles ] Dr. Barnsdall, he got the latest tests and scans back, and he consulted with three other surgeons… …and none of them think that you’ll be able to walk again.

I’m so sorry. I promise you, as soon as I know anything about curtis, I will get that information to you. Thank you. You said that — that portia was with him. Do you know who else was out there? Uh, your attorney — zeke, jordan ashford, dante, anna, and sonny. Well, um… curtis is such a good man. They’d better find out who did this. Yeah. Time’s up. I will come back as soon as I can. Seeing you makes everything better. I love you. I love you.

[ Exhales deeply ] Doctors have been wrong before. And this isn’t a death sentence. You know, we almost lost you. We almost lost you for good. And dr. Barnsdall said that there’s no reason that you can’t live an absolutely normal — portia, stop. Stop. Just stop. But we all love you, honey, no matter what.

[ Sobs quietly ] I need some time. Of course. Of course you do, yeah. Alone. I understand.

[ Door opens ]

[ Door closes ]

[ Sniffles, sobs ]

[ Sighs ]

[ Cellphone rings ] Hello? This is josslyn jacks. Who’s this? Excuse me? Wha– what are you talking about? You need to understand, sonny — he rarely makes snap judgments, but when he does, look out. So you don’t think that he’s judged me yet? No, probably not. But I-I think I managed to convince him that he has nothing to worry about with you spending time around avery. Hmm. Well, he’s not the only one that can read people, and I get the distinct feeling that he’s on to us. Nina:

[ Softly ] Sasha.

[ Whimpers ]

[ Breathing heavily ] I was — I was a patient at ferncliff. It’s horrible. I promise you, I will fight this tooth and nail. She’s going to a good place, right? It’s exactly where your daughter-in-law should be. She’ll get all the help she needs. Isn’t that what we all want?

[ Elevator dings ] I’m sorry. Can I just say one thing to her? Sasha. Can you hear me? I know you’re in there. Listen to me, okay? You’re not alone. You understand? You’re not alone. Thank you.
