Lucas: I am so sorry. I am so sorry the way this all went down. But I honestly thought ej was gonna try to kill you. If you didn’t walk in just now, he could have just killed me.

Sami: Well, maybe I should have let him.

Lucas: What do you mean?

Sami: I mean that ej knows about us because of you.

Lucas: No, it’s not because of me. I–I tried to keep it from him.

Sami: You couldn’t just leave it in the fireplace to burn, could you? You couldn’t just let it burn.

Lucas: You know?

Sami: Of course I know. And now ej knows every detail about us. And it is because of you.

Rafe: But you are not alone. You’re not. You have holly and henry, allie, and me.

Gabi: I had a wonderful day. I think you’re about to get a job offer from philip.

Jake: That’s great.

Gabi: Yeah. I think our plan is officially in motion. See, first, we get rid of philip, and we take over titan, and then we take over the world.

Jake: Wow. So tell me, how exactly does one get the ball rolling on world domination?

Gabi: Oh, easy. I just had to make a slight modification to philip’s computer.

Jake: Hmm.

Philip: Come on. Enough already. Unfreeze, damn it. Stupid bunch of ones and zeros. What the hell?

Chloe: Problem?

Philip: Something wrong with my computer. At least there was. It seems to be working fine now. That’s strange.

Chloe: Maybe a little glitch in the system.

Philip: Probably. So what brings you here?

Chloe: Well, I got out of work early, and I figured since you’ve been so kind in chauffeuring me around when I was injured, now that I’ve got two arms at my disposal, I figured I would return the favor and chauffeur you somewhere. Maybe home?

Philip: That’s very thoughtful.

Chloe: Oh, come on. Don’t tell me you have to work late. I was kind of hoping we could go for a celebratory dinner.

Philip: What exactly would we be celebrating?

Chloe: Oh, I don’t know. Maybe my newly working arm, or us.

Philip: I’m really not that hungry.

Chloe: Oh, well, I kind of thought it was more about the company and not the food. You know what? If we brainstorm a collaboration between basic black and titan, I can use my corporate card.

Philip: Brady would really love that, wouldn’t he?

Chloe: What does brady have to do with this?

Philip: Oh, I don’t know. One thing, he already shot down the idea of our companies working together, so I don’t know if I really wanna brainstorm another idea. Get my ass handed to me again.

Chloe: I was kind of kidding.

Philip: Yeah. Well, here’s an idea. Why don’t you have dinner with brady?

Chloe: Did I miss something? Philip, this can’t be about brady and me working together. We discussed that, and you said you were okay with it.

Philip: Did you save him from big, bad xander last night? Get him home safely, tuck him in?

Chloe: What are you talking about?

Philip: I waited for you at the pub for hours. I hoping maybe we could have a romantic nightcap. You never came back.

Chloe: It–it was late, and that party was definitely over.

Philip: You could have returned my text message.

Chloe: What text message? I didn’t get a text from you.

Philip: I’m sure you were pretty busy.

Chloe: Philip–oh. “I’m still at the pub. Everything okay? If you need help with brady, let me know. I’ll be here as long as it takes.” I’m so sorry. I swear I did not see this text last night. I was so tired. I just went straight home and to my room.

Philip: At least it wasn’t brady’S.

Chloe: Excuse me?

Philip: I was just saying–

Chloe: No, I heard what you said. What’s your problem? Brady is my friend, and he’s recuperating from a bad car accident. I wanted to make sure that xander didn’t beat the crap out of him.

Philip: I think brady can take care of himself. Oh, but I’m sure he was thrilled when you showed up.

Chloe: You know what? Forget about that offer for the ride.

Philip: Hey, chloe, just–wait. I’m sorry.

Chloe: Think what you want about brady, but you have to trust me, philip. Okay? I work with brady. He’s my friend, but that’s it. I’m with you, and I wanna be with you. But you have to trust that. And you have to trust me or we don’t stand a chance.

Philip: And you’re right about that. I need to grow the hell up. We’re not in high school anymore. We’re adults. And I am damn lucky to have you in my life.

Chloe: Yeah, you are damn lucky.

Philip: You’re right about another thing.

Chloe: Oh, yeah. What’s that?

Philip: I should have done what you did last night. I should have gone home, got in bed. Maybe then I wouldn’t be in the middle of this mess with sami and lucas.

Lucas: You’re right. I did take kristen’s letter out of the fireplace, but I did not give it to ej.

Sami: Because nicole did.

Lucas: I tried to stop her. I did, but it was way too late. Damn it.

Sami: Oh. Yeah. What are you a hero now for trying to stop her? Nicole would never have had that letter if you hadn’t given it to philip.

Lucas: I never gave it to philip.

Sami: That was your plan all along, lucas, I know it.

Lucas: I never had a plan. Sami, I didn’t have a plan. I told you from the very beginning that I would never do that. That I wouldn’t be the one to tell ej about us.

Sami: No. Right. So you sent your henchman to do it instead.

Lucas: My henchman? Really? No. That’s the other guy.

Sami: Okay. Come on. How stupid do you think I am? Philip has no motive to tell ej. The only reason philip gave that letter to nicole is because you put him up to it. Because you knew nicole would use the letter to destroy my marriage.

Rafe: Ava. Hi. What are you doing here?

Ava: Called your office. They said you took the day off. Are you not feeling well?

Nicole: I’m not sick. Just not having the best day.

Ava: Oh, I’m sorry to hear that.

Nicole: Look, rafe was just being kind, giving me a shoulder to cry on.

Ava: That sounds serious. Did something happen?

Nicole: You could say that. Sami dimera destroyed my marriage.

Lucas: Listen, I swear–i swear to you, I knew nicole wanted revenge on you because of what you did. You made xander expose her fling in front of everybody. But I did not tell philip to give it to her.

Sami: Oh, really? I know that’s not true. You admitted to me that you wanted to tell ej about us, but then you didn’T. What? You didn’t have the guts, so you talked your brother into doing your dirty work?

Lucas: I didn’t do it. I had nothing to do with this. I’m telling you the truth.

Sami: Then how did philip get the letter, lucas? When it was delivered, gabi took it by accident, right? And then she was able to convince jake not to use it to his advantage. There was only one other person who even knew that letter existed, because I told you. Because I told you how desperate I was to get my hands on it. And then gabi came back, and she handed me the letter. And I burned it. I tried to burn it in the fireplace, and somehow it gets miraculously resurrected by you.

Ej: That’s why our call ended so abruptly the other day. Samantha grabbed the phone from me and hung up on you. Fed me some nonsense about how I could get into trouble for aiding and abetting a wanted criminal. Of course it was just a ploy to keep you from talking to me, because she knew you’d reveal her betrayal with lucas. What am I going to do about samantha? Believe me, I have plans. You’d never want leftover onion residue

Gabi: All I had to do was put a keylogger on philip’s computer.

Jake: Oh, yeah. Keylogger. Nice.

Gabi: Do you know what a keylogger is?

Jake: Of course.

Gabi: What is it?

Jake: It’s a–okay, fine. But do you know what a piffle valve is?

Gabi: Touché. You’re gonna tell me what a piffle valve is later, but let me explain this to you, because it affects us both profoundly. A keylogger is a type of software that records every keystroke that is on a computer. So anything that philip writes–emails, passwords– I will be able to see.

Jake: Wow, that’s damn impressive. And a little scary.

Gabi: I know, right?

Jake: Yeah. Suddenly this whole world domination thing doesn’t seem outside of the bounds of possibility.

Gabi: I told you. And now that I’ve gotten in the door at titan, we can move on from phase one.

Jake: Okay. What’s phase two?

Gabi: We watch. We listen. We gather information. We learn everything that we can about the way philip does business. And then we find the perfect way to sabotage him. We’ll take him down so fast and hard. He’ll never know what hit him.

Jake: Oh, then we take over the company and the entire world if you have your way, right?

Gabi: Exactly.

Jake: You are a diabolical genius. You know that? An incredibly hot, diabolical genius.

Chloe: What mess with sami and lucas?

Philip: I probably shouldn’t get into it.

Chloe: Does it have anything to do with them sleeping together behind ej’s back?

Philip: Where did you get that idea?

Chloe: Oh, nicole suspected it. And I’m guessing it’s true.

Philip: It is. But you can’t say anything. Lucas told me this in confidence.

Chloe: I will not breathe a word of it, but you know what secrets are like in salem. They have a way of coming out.

Philip: Especially if they have a little help.

Chloe: Philip, what have you done?

Sami: Why were you even spying on me in the first place?

Lucas: I was not spying on you. I was a little upset, because you hung up on me, and I wanted to see you so we could finish our conversation. But when I saw you in front of the fireplace lighting that letter on fire–i don’t know–it got me a little bit curious, you know. Starting a fire in the middle of july. I didn’t know what you were doing. And then when you left, I fished the letter out of the fireplace, and I saw it. And I read it. And yes, I admit, I did wanna show it to ej at first.

Sami: You did want him to know.

Lucas: I did, because you know how I feel about you. You know I wanna be with you. You know I love you. But I didn’t do that, because I didn’t wanna hurt you.

Sami: Oh, great. That sounds so sweet. Except all you did was just make sure someone else did the dirty work.

Lucas: I was upset, okay? I–I confided in my brother, and–and I told him how I felt about you and how I felt about ej.

Sami: Whatever happened to discretion?

Lucas: Listen to me. How would I know that philip would do that? I thought I could trust him. He was helping me out. He knew I was upset. He came up with this plan, you know, this plan that he could make–he made sure that the letter could get to nicole without it getting traced back to me. But I didn’t go along with it. I shut that plan down. I took the letter, and I crumpled it up. I threw it away. It’s not my fault. How should I know that he was gonna go in the trash can and–and give it to nicole? I didn’t know that.

Sami: Well, either way, you got what you wanted. My marriage is blown out of the water. This is the sound of an asthma attack…

Chloe: So you gave the letter to nicole knowing that she would take it to ej?

Philip: That seemed like a great idea at the time. Nicole gets major payback. Lucas gets a shot to be with sami.

Chloe: So lucas had somebody else do his dirty work.

Philip: No, that’s where you’re wrong. This was all me. Lucas passed on it, because as much as he loves sami, he didn’t wanna hurt her. So that’s where I picked up the ball– with a letter in the trash can, in this case–and ran with it. It’s no surprise lucas isn’t showing a lot of gratitude.

Chloe: Oh, please. ‘Cause he’s such a noble man? He’s the guy who faked a brain tumor to get me out of town, like, really far out of town, antarctica. He’s not above using questionable methods when it suits him.

Philip: I bet you’re not happy with me either.

Chloe: Sami’s marriage blowing up? She deserves it.

Philip: But nicole, we don’t know that she’s actually lit that match yet.

Chloe: Knowing nicole, she’s going to use that letter exactly as you intended. And I’m not saying that I approve of your very naughty method, but I did see my best friend’s marriage fall apart last night, and I would do anything to help her. Right now, I guess I’ll just have to settle for seeing sami reap the damage that she has sown.

Nicole: Eric came home yesterday to surprise me for our anniversary.

Ava: That’s wonderful.

Nicole: Yes, it was at first. I mean, to–to get to be with him after all those months, we were so happy. And especially when he told me that he was just gonna honor his commitment in africa, and then he was coming home for good.

Ava: So what happened?

Nicole: Eric suggested that we throw a party, you know, spur of the moment, just some family and friends. And it was perfect until xander showed up.

Ava: And I’m guessing he didn’t come to wish you well.

Nicole: He told everyone that he and I slept together, and he enjoyed every minute of it.

Ava: Son of a bitch. I was hoping he’d keep his damn mouth shut.

Rafe: You knew about us?

Ava: Yeah.

Nicole: I confided in ava.

Rafe: Oh.

Ava: I don’t understand. Nicole, I don’t understand why– why would he expose you now after all of this time after you gave him a job?

Nicole: I’m guessing money.

Ava: So sami paid him to blow up your marriage.

Nicole: And it worked too, because eric is on a plane back to africa, and it’s–and it’s over between us.

Ava: What the hell is wrong with sami? What is her problem? I’m sorry. I know that the two of you were married, but where I come from, you don’t just stand back when someone hurts one of your own. Nicole, she’s not gonna get away with this. We’re gonna pay her back.

Nicole: I already did.

Ej: Needless to say, samantha will no longer be living under the dimera roof. Oh, believe me, I wanted to take even more drastic measures. But considering how pathetic she was, it hardly would’ve been satisfying. Harold is packing up her things as we speak. That cheating slut will be gone before dinner.

Lucas: You know I think ej is all wrong for you and that you’d be better off with me. I never meant to cause you pain.

Sami: You keep saying that.

Lucas: When I heard ej got the letter, I was scared. I didn’t know what he would do. I didn’t know how angry he would be. I didn’t know what he would do to you. So I came here, because I wanted to protect you.

Sami: Thank you for that.

Lucas: I’m sorry everything went down the way it did.

Sami: I don’t think you are.

Lucas: Yes, I am. I do. I mean it. You don’t deserve it. You never deserved ej to find out like this.

Sami: Well, one good thing, we certainly made nicole’s day, haven’t we? Maybe her whole year. Maybe her whole decade.

Lucas: I meant what I said before when I told you that if anything ever happened between you and ej that I’d be there for you. Because I love you. I’m sorry that things happened the way they did. I am. But maybe it’s the best. Maybe it’s a sign. Maybe this is our chance. Our chance to finally get back together again. To be a thriver

Ava: So you took kristen’s letter to ej?

Nicole: But before I gave it to him, he was so protective of sami defending her to the hilt. Wouldn’t let me say a bad thing about her even though everything I said was true. But when he read those words out loud from his own sister that sami cheated on him and with lucas, you should’ve seen the look on his face. I actually felt bad for him.

Ava: Please. You did that man a favor. Oh, and you paid back sami hard. Good for you.

Nicole: Yeah. I don’t know how good it is. I still lost eric. And then sami came over here, and she tried to kill me. And if it weren’t for rafe, I–I don’t know what would have happened.

Ava: Well, that’s rafe for you, right? Oh, he’s such a stand-up guy. He’s always–always there for his friends.

Nicole: God, this has been so much about me. Ava, what are you doing here? What’s going on?

Ava: Oh, nope. It does not matter. We can talk about it some other time.

Nicole: Wait, wait, wait, wait, please. Tell me.

Ava: Well, I just–I was hoping that since I’m in the market for a job that maybe you could arrange an interview for me at basic black if you think there’s a position that I might be qualified for.

Nicole: I–I think that’s a great idea.

Ava: Hmm?

Nicole: Yeah.

Ava: Okay. But you know what? That is not for discussion right now. Right now, we need to take care of you. I’m so sorry this is happening, nicole. Why don’t–why don’t you let rafe and i take you out for a dinner? We can get you out of the house. We’ll make a night of it. Just the three of us.

Gabi: Jake, once I put our plan into motion, then victor will have no choice but to toss philip out on his ass. And then the old coot will need to find somebody to right the ship. And who’s gonna be there ready to hit the ground running, ready to do some damage control as the new ceo? Yours truly.

Jake: That’s one answer.

Gabi: That’s–that’s the only answer.

Jake: I don’t know. I’m was thinking that…

Gabi: Thinking what?

Jake: Maybe I could be ceo. Huh?

Philip: Thanks again for not being upset with me for exposing that letter.

Chloe: Well, thank you for telling me the truth. We’ve seen what secrets do to relationships, nicole’s, sami’S.

Philip: There will never be any secrets between us. That I can promise you. And I’m sorry about earlier being a jealous jerk about you going off to help brady.

Chloe: And I’m sorry I didn’t see your text message and join you for that nightcap.

Philip: We can always have a do-over if you’re interested.

Chloe: Mm.

Ej: I owe you a great deal, kristen. If it hadn’t been for that letter, I never would’ve learned the truth about my wife. No. No, there’s no going back, no possibility of forgiveness. Knowing how you feel about her, I thought that would please you. You too. Good night.

Sami: The chain. Is this the necklace that I saw in that vintage shop in tuscany?

Ej: Is it? Who can remember?

Ej: I tracked down the shopkeeper, and he was more than happy to ship it. Try it on.

Lucas: Ej is packing your things. He wants you to go out of the house. I don’t think he wants to patch things up with you.

Sami: Okay, listen. This is what ej and I do, okay? This is who we are. We’re–we’re passionate people. We fight big, and then we make up, and we don’t quit. I–I don’t quit. You trust me. I will make ej come around.

Ava: All right. Well, back then, I kind of thought that maybe she–she had feelings for you. Now I’m starting to think that maybe it’s the other way around.

Jake: I think you know I have zero problem working under you.

Gabi: Except with your clothes on.

Ciara: And unlike you, I actually have a heart. So what I’m gonna do is, I’m gonna call an ambulance for you, and then I’m gonna go back to salem to marry the man that I love.

Lucas: But it’s not true. I’m telling you, man, it’s all lies. Kristen was furious with sami, because she figured out that she escaped from prison. And she’s always blamed sami for breaking up her relationship with brady, for tearing apart her family. She’d do anything to get back at her.

Ej: Is that so?

Lucas: Yeah. That is so. Kristen said that. Kristen said sami is the whole reason that her plan blew up.

Ej: Hmm. How odd considering samantha never even had a chance to call the police, because kristen had her locked up downstairs with you, where you both had sex for a second time.

Lucas: What?

Ej: That’s right, you loathsome simp. I know everything. You and samantha have deceived me for the very last time.

Sami: You should probably go. This bitch and I need to talk.

Ciara: And I will. Just as soon as I wrap your ankle. That should help with the pain until you get medical attention.

Ciara: Well, because–

Ben: Because when you wiped out on your motorcycle and I found you on the side of the road, I brought you back here. I carried you, set your broken leg right there on that bed, and I made you a badass homemade splint.

Ciara: I know that because I used to be a candy-striper. And everyone knows that compression alleviates pain. Now shut up, and let’s just get this over with.

Ben: Fine. But you’re gonna have to come closer than that. Like, a lot closer.

Ciara: [Scoffs]

Ej: If you’re here to run interference, it’s too late. Samantha told me all about your little affair.

Lucas: It wasn’t an affair. It happened twice, and then it was over.

Ej: Not for you. We both know how much you’ve been lusting after my wife practically the whole time that her and I were married.

Lucas: Don’t get all self-righteous on me. You and I both know how your love affair started years ago, don’t we? When that building collapsed on me, you told her if she wanted to save me, she’d have to sleep with you. Remember that? That was the deal, right? I mean, what do you even call that? After everything that happened with allie, I–I don’t even want to go there. But I’ll tell you where I will go. You think you’re the one true love of her life, but you got a sick way of showing it. I loved her first. Don’t forget that. There’s nothing you can do to change it.

Rafe: Go home, sami.

Sami: Stay out of this, rafe. You have no idea what she did.

Sami: Well, she was two-timing my brother with xander. Why should she get away with it?

Nicole: That while your husband was away, you were rolling around in bed with another man? Yes. I did.

Nicole: I had no right? So it was okay for you to broadcast my personal business to the entire town?

Sami: You were having sex with xander. He’s literally the worst human on the planet.

Nicole: What difference does it make? You still had sex with a man other than your husband. And it’s not the first time. You cheated on rafe with ej. And ej cheated on me with you. So as far as I see it, you got what you deserved.

Jake: No. Terrified, no. Maybe she’s a little bit pissed, okay? But deep down, she knows ben’s not gonna hurt her. See, this is not a traditional kidnapping. There’s no ransom and whatnot, right? This is more of an emergency-type situation. An intervention.

Ava: I don’t follow.

Jake: Okay, ciara has amnesia, right? So she doesn’t remember how much she loves ben. That’s the only reason she’s marrying this other clown anyway.

Ava: I see. So ben kidnapped her in order to stop the wedding?

Jake: Ben kidnapped her in hopes that she gets her memory back and she’ll call off the wedding herself. See, I have been pushing him to fight for her for so long. Thank god he finally took my advice.

Ava: And what about you?

Ava: Why are you looking for a crappy apartment on the riverfront district? Aren’t you gonna fight to get your old ceo job back?

Sami: What? How the hell did philip get–oh, my god. Lucas said that he wasn’t gonna tell ej.

Rafe: Lucas was just here. He was trying to keep nicole from telling ej, giving him the letter.

Nicole: And when I told him, it was too late, he went flying out of here looking for you. He was very worried.

Sami: Oh, I bet he was.

[Sobs]

Lucas: Your house? This is gabi’s house.

Ej: Have you even considered that if you don’t leave I might break your legs?

Lucas: You know, if you have a good marriage, people don’t stray. They don’t go looking to fulfil their needs by somebody else.

Ej: Out now.

Lucas: What do you think, man? You think that you and sami are a match made in heaven, really? You guys are a couple from hell. That’s all you are. That’s why you’ll always be here in this miserable mansion living your miserable lives together.

Ej: Oh, just what I need. Armchair analysis from a slow-witted runt.

Ciara: Yeah. So you almost jabbed me with a syringe.

Ciara: Clearly. Because here I am against my will in the place where your bff tried to set me on fire twice. But who cares about how I feel, right, as long as you get what you want out of me?

Philip: Like making a play for him your first day back in town?

Gabi: Well, I was talking about using you to try to forget about jake. I dragged you into bed, acted all sure of myself, and then backed out. But you totally understood, and I really appreciated that.

Philip: Well, we both knew who you belonged with. You know, romance might not have been in the cards for us. But we have a terrific working relationship. And I don’t want anything to get in the way of that.

Gabi: Neither do I.

Ava: So you’re going to work at titan?

Jake: Well, I don’t know. I mean, my experience is spotty at best, right? Former ceo, former mechanic, former mobster.

Gabi: I was so shocked when jake turned down my offer to revive gabi chic at dimera. I’m very grateful that you took a chance on me.

Philip: No, it wasn’t a chance. It was smart business. Gabi chic is on track to do record earnings this quarter.

Gabi: That’s no coincidence. It’s because I have the support of a visionary ceo.

Gabi: I do have an idea that I think will make this company even more successful.

Philip: I’m all ears.

Gabi: I think we should hire jake. He’s very talented. He just left the top position at dimera.

Philip: He didn’t leave. He was voted out.

Gabi: Which makes him highly knowledgeable about the competition and also highly motivated to destroy it.

Philip: You think he’s gonna spill secrets?

Gabi: Oh, what, you think xander didn’t spill secrets when he went to basic black? And jake is way more valuable than that ape could ever be.

Philip: Wow, you’re very passionate about this. You sure you don’t have ulterior motives?

Gabi: I do like philip; his grip on titan is tenuous at best. I mean, he’s on his tenth chance. It’s just a matter of time before he screws up.

Jake: What, what, and I’m gonna be there to clean up the mess?

Gabi: Victor has a history of helping his family, supporting them as long as they don’t let him down. And when they do, when philip flares out, that old man is gonna be desperate for a replacement. I’m obviously gonna be the successor. But you, you’re gonna be right there working with me. And my first act as ceo of titan is gonna be to take down dimera once and for all.

Gabi: Ulterior motives? Definitely not. I would never suggest bringing somebody on that I didn’t think would be a true asset to this company. So, philip, what do you think?

Philip: I’m not opposed to making jake an offer and seeing how things go. I’ll certainly consider it.

Gabi: Excellent.

Jake: Sorry. Didn’t mean to overstep.

Ava: I’ve got nothing to hide. Yeah. I did take over for angelo. I was running the vitali family business. But I cut ties. I’m out of it for good.

Jake: Why did you stop?

Ava: For my son. I missed too many years with tripp. And now that I have a chance to build my relationship, I’m not letting anything jeopardize that. Not to mention the police commissioner and a mob boss shacking up. Not a great look.

Jake: So what are you doing now for work?

Ava: At the moment, nothing. But I’m thinking about talking to my friend nicole, see if she’s got anything for me at basic black.

Jake: Ah, sounds like a good idea. What’s stopping you?

Ava: Nothing. You know what? No time like the present, right?

Jake: Yeah.

Ava: Excuse me. I have a call to make.

Rafe: Oh. Well, actually, I’m just glad I got here when I did. Otherwise, I’d be investigating a homicide.

Nicole: Mine or sami’s?

Rafe: It’s hard to say. Toss-up really, you’re both so damn tough.

Nicole: Well, I don’t feel tough. I feel awful. You know, I was just so angry, and I–I wanted revenge. So I did what sami does. And I acted without thinking, and I–I thought it would make me feel better. I guess it did at the time.

Rafe: And now?

Nicole: And now, even if ej left sami, it doesn’t–it doesn’t change anything. I still lost my husband. And while he was gone all those months and I felt so lonely, now I am really, truly alone.

[Sighs]

Sami: What the hell are you doing, ej?

Ej: Lucas asked me to kill him. And I was inclined to oblige.

Lucas: You don’t got the stones.

Ej: You’re not worth it. I’ll leave you two to see how packing’s coming along.

Sami: What packing?

Ej: I’ve instructed harold to pack up your things.

Sami: Why would you do that?

Philip: Yesterday, when you put that letter from kristen to ej in the wastebasket, I took it out.

Lucas: You did what? Why?

Philip: Because you’re too good a guy to use that letter to your advantage. I, on the other hand, am not that good a guy, so I took care of it for you.

Lucas: What do you mean you “took care of it” for me, philip? What the hell did you do?

Philip: I gave it to nicole.

Philip: Mm-hmm, and seeing as how sami made sure eric found out about nicole sleeping with xander, I’m pretty sure she probably wanted to return the favor.

I confronted sami, and she finally admitted that she cheated on you with none other than lucas horton.” So it wasn’t just one desperate moment when you and lucas were being held prisoner. And he was just coming to say goodbye, because he assumed I was coming home to you to italy. And then everything I had been holding inside of me, it just sort of started pouring out. I told him everything I had been feeling and dealing with, and I admitted that I didn’t even know if I had a marriage to go back to. And then I didn’t want to admit it to you. I didn’t want to admit it to me, and then I said how hard it’s been and how lonely I feel, how alone I feel, even when we’re in the same room together. And I told him that I was afraid you were never gonna touch me again.

Ej: I can’t believe it. You’re saying that this is my fault?

Lucas: Do you know if ej read the letter?

Nicole: He did. He read it right in front of me.

Lucas: How long ago?

Nicole: About an hour.

Lucas: Thanks a lot, nicole. Thank you. Now he’s gonna kill her. Great job.

Nicole: Well, and they’ll get back together. That’s their dance, lucas. How long have we all been standing on the sidelines watching?

Theo: Why do I get the feeling that there’s something really off about this wedding?

Ben: I shouldn’t even be talking to you about this.

Claire: Ben. We talk about everything. We’re friends.

Ben: Yeah, but what I’m talking about right now, it’s a crime. If it comes out that I told you about this and you didn’t turn me in, Claire, you could be charged with aiding and abetting.

Claire: Okay, Ben, first of all, I’m not gonna turn you in. Okay, and more importantly, what if I want to aid and abet?

Claire: Ben, I think you’re right. And this isn’t just about you wanting Ciara back. Ciara, who has PTSD after what she’s been through, is about to do something that she could regret for the rest of her life without even thinking about the consequences. Ben, what if she marries Theo today? And then she gets her memories back–memories of you, memories of how much she loved you. Divorcing Theo would destroy him. But what would not divorcing him do to her?

Ben: This morning, Allie was telling me that she was trying to tell Ciara about our wedding and trying to tell her about how much she actually loved me, and she saw her have some type of reaction. And then she told Allie to stop talking. Now Allie thinks that Ciara is– is starting to remember this stuff, and that it scares her.

Ciara: [Sighs] Now what?

Shawn: Well, that’s Belle. There’s a crisis at DiMera, and she can’t make itto the wedding, either. And she said she’s really sorry.

Ciara: Great. [Laughs] You know what? This is not the end of the world. It’s okay. I didn’t even give people much notice to the fact that we were getting married, so I can’t get upset when some people can’t make it.

Shawn: Yeah, I mean, well, given everything that’s happened, I’m sure that everybody would understand if you felt that you wanted to–

Ciara: Shawn. Damn it, Shawn, I told you, I am not postponing this wedding, no matter how much you want me to! Just stop!

EJ: Payment schedule. We’re going to need a whole new calendar.

Belle: Right.

EJ: Damn it–calendar. Ciara’s getting married today, isn’t she?

Belle: Oh, no, no, it’s okay. I texted Shawn, and I told him I wouldn’t be able to make it.

EJ: I’m really sorry. I completely forgot.

Belle: You know, I mean, this is a multimillion dollar, time-sensitive deal, and, uh, I’m on retainer, so. Do you think Kate and Chad can buy us some time in New York?

EJ: Not much. You know what I think? Our client’s last-minute attack of nerves? I think the timing was calculated.

Belle: Really?

EJ: Mm-hmm. They get cold feet at the last possible second, lean back, and see how much more they can squeeze out of us.

Belle: Huh. So much for negotiating in good faith.

EJ: Mm. I had forgotten how cutthroat business can be. People look you in the eye, smile, and stab you in the back.

Belle: Sounds like Sami.

EJ: Excuse me?

Belle: Actually, I think she was smiling when she stabbed Nicole in the back at the party last night.

EJ: You’re mistaken. Xander was the one who did the stabbing, and it wasn’t in the back. Very direct, very public.

Belle: Oh, come on, EJ. You know the law. Co-conspirator is just as guilty as the killer. And my sister–your wife– she’s the same conniving bitch she’s always been.

Lucas: And a cheery good morning to you, too, Sami.

Sami: What are you doing here, Lucas?

Lucas: I wanna talk to you.

Sami: We don’t have anything to talk about.

Lucas: What, come on, you don’t wanna do a post-mortem on that party last night? Come on, it’ll be great. According to Philip, you were amazing. You were–what, triumphant. You brought Nicole to her knees.

Sami: Well, that’s a position she’s familiar with.

Lucas: That’s funny; it’s not nice, but it’s funny.

Sami: I didn’t do anything except make sure that Eric found his way out of a miserable marriage.

Lucas: Well, don’t be modest. You did a lot more than that. I mean, you–you put public humiliation on a whole new level. You know, I’m actually surprised
you didn’t take Nicole down to The Square and shave her head. That would’ve been great.

Sami: I don’t know why you’re after me about this. I didn’t do anything. Xander’s the one who barged into that party and shot off his big mouth about what they–

Lucas: Oh, Sami, stop, stop. We both know you, and we both know what you did.

Sami: Okay, fine. Of course you know me. And you’ve certainly been part of your fair share of my schemes. So where does this moral superiority come from?

Lucas: I don’t know, I guess I’m just choking on the hypocrisy here.

Sami: What?

Lucas: You played God. I mean, you broke up Nicole’s marriage, and you’re actually guilty of the same sin she is. So what would happen if you and EJ threw a party, and someone announced what happened with us?

Sami: Okay, look. Let’s stay quiet about it, okay? We agreed to never talk about this again.

Lucas: No, you can’t do that. You can’t just push delete and act like it didn’t happen.

Sami: Yes, I can. And you can too.

Lucas: No, I can’t. I can’t because I’m not like you. In fact, Sami, I almost told EJ everything.

Nicole: “Dearest EJ, I’m thrilled to know that you’ve fully recovered and have decided to reclaim DiMera from Jake. I only regret that my current circumstances prevent me from cheering you on in person. Rest assured that I would’ve given you and Chad my vote.” Okay, so why did you give me this?

Philip: Just keep reading.

Nicole: “Since I was unable to do that, I’ll give you something just as valuable: The truth.”

Philip: Now you’re getting to the good part.

Nicole: “Please know that I take no pleasure in sharing this information. But you’re my brother, and you have a right to know that Sami, the wife you adore, has been sleeping with another man.”

Philip: You were right last night. Sami isn’t without sin, and now you have the proof.

Nicole: “I confronted Sami, and she finally admitted that she cheated on you with none other than Lucas Horton.” So Sami did sleep with Lucas, and Kristen found out, and she started blackmailing them.

Philip: And assigned them the task of getting Chloe out of the picture.

Nicole: Okay, so this– this letter is addressed to EJ. How did you get it?

Philip: Does it matter? Let’s just say it was intercepted. I thought you might wanna return it to its rightful owner.

Nicole: Mm-hmm. And what are you getting out of this?

Philip: Well, it’s always a pleasure to screw up EJ’s life. But the main thing is that with Lucas being Lucas, he didn’t just sleep with her; he fell in love with her all over again.

Nicole: Ah, poor guy.

Philip: Yeah, well, he is my brother, and I want him to be happy.

Nicole: Mm-hmm. So why don’t you give him the letter?

Philip: Unlike anyone else in Salem, he won’t play dirty.

Nicole: And that’s where I come in.

Philip: I’m gonna leave that letter with you. What you do with it is up to you.

Nicole: So I could refuse to stoop to Sami’s level and destroy this letter. Or I could, as you said, pay her back in kind.

EJ: Hypothetically, even if Samantha had something to do with the events of last night–

Belle: Okay, that’s like– that’s like saying, “hypothetically, two plus two is four.”

EJ: That doesn’t make her a conniving bitch. Her tactics might have been a little extreme, but she was mainly just trying to protect her brother.

Belle: Oh, come on. You don’t really believe that, do you? Sami did not give a second thought to what last night would do to Eric.

EJ: That’s not true.

Belle: Okay, EJ, come on. It’s a matter of public record that when it comes to Nicole, Sami will stop at nothing. I mean, just look at what– what she did at Henry’s custody hearing. She went so far as to have Jan Spears released from a mental hospital. This is a woman whose– whose sole purpose in life is to terrorize me and my family. This is a woman who tried to kill my daughter. And to Sami, that’s just collateral damage.

EJ: I think we should just get back to business.

Belle: Fine. You know, it will never cease to amaze me that a man as clinical and cynical and Machiavellian as you still can’t see Sami for who she really is.  And god help her if you ever do.

Abe: So what do you mean, “something’s off”?

Theo: Last night, I walked in on Ciara talking to Allie, and Ciara seemed really upset, and when I asked them what they were talking about, she said that she had just asked Allie to be her maid of honor. But neither one of them seemed very happy about it.

Lani: Women get really emotional about their wedding. Okay, don’t overthink that.

Theo: Well, and everyone keeps trying to talk me out of it, but I don’t know. I just–I think Ciara would fall apart if I backed out.

Abe: Well, we shouldn’t have butted in.

Theo: Well, Chad had kind of said the same thing, that we should wait, but like I said, I don’t know if Ciara could handle it.

Lani: Look. Ciara is gonna be fine because she has you. Right? So about this best man, I have an idea. What about Eli?

Theo: Would he mind?

Lani: Mind? He would be honored. He’s gonna meet us at the church, so I will just call and let him know.

Theo: Okay.

[Phone ringing]

Lani: Look at that. It’s him.

Lani: Hey, baby. Perfect timing. Um, I wanted to ask you– oh. Yeah, but, um–mm. I will let him know. I love you too. Bye.

Theo: What now?

Lani: One of his court cases got moved up, and he has to be there to testify. Otherwise, the perp would walk. He’s really sorry.

Theo: Yeah. Me too.

Shawn: Well, it’s a good thing you booked the chapel and not the cathedral.

Ciara: Oh, ha, ha. Oh, you think you’re funny. I know you think that’s funny, but I am getting really tired of your running commentary.

Shawn: Okay, I’m done. I’m sorry; I’ll stop.

Ciara: Okay, good. And where is Allie? She’s supposed to be here–hi.

Allie: Hi, I’m so sorry I’m late, but I ran into Chanel, and we just, um–

Ciara: Oh, you guys just stopped to get croissants?

Allie: No, Ciara, it’s really good news–her mom is backing down, and she’s chilling out with the demolition of the square, so–

Shawn: Wow, that’s great news.

Allie: I know!

Ciara: It’s also a great day to get married. Yeah, uh, just to let you know, my big brother over here has been making really rude, hurtful remarks about my wedding this entire morning, and I would really, really appreciate it if you didn’t do the same.

Allie: Okay.

Ciara: And I also wanna hear nothing about my last wedding. Like, nothing.

Allie: Okay.

Ciara: Yeah, last night, Allie tried to take me on a trip down memory lane, telling me how beautiful and wonderful my last wedding was, and how Ben was this perfect pillar of perfection, and–

Allie: Ciara. I’m sorry, okay? I will not bring it up again. I promise.

Ciara: Good. Thank you.

Allie: Um, well, let’s make sure that your hair’s perfect.

Shawn: Is there anything I can do to help?

Ciara: Just, uh, make sure that nothing else goes wrong, okay?

Ben: So you’re gonna go back to your house, you’re gonna text me when Ciara’s leaving. I’m gonna be around the corner on my bike. I’m gonna zoom in, throw her on the back, take off.

Claire: Okay, I’m not sure if this is romantic or just toxic masculinity, but that is a very dangerous plan.

Ben: That is what you just told me her dad did.

Claire: Yeah, back in the dark ages.

Ben: Okay, well, then I’ll find another form of transportation. Either way, you need to text me when Ciara’s leaving.

Claire: No, Ben, I can’t do that. Ciara does not want me there. Remember, I told you this. I tried to bash some sense into her with a wedding bouquet. Look, maybe there’s someone else.

Ben: You know what? Maybe there is.

Ben: What about Allie?

Claire: What about her?

Ben: She came by to tell me she’s gonna be Ciara’s maid of honor.

Allie: Yeah, I know.

Ben: Yeah, but Claire, she’s only doing it to look after Ciara. She knows this wedding’s a bad idea too. She’s worried about her.

Claire: So worried she’d help you kidnap her? I don’t think so. And look, what if you tell her what you’re planning, and she turns around and tells Ciara?

Ben: That’s the risk I’m willing to take.

Ciara: Um, Shawn. I don’t want Theo to worry. Would you mind going to the church and telling him that I’m gonna be on my way soon?

Shawn: Yeah, I mean, I’ll– I’ll text him right now.

Ciara: Oh, my god. Shawn, just go, please. I don’t want you standing there watching me obviously miserable on your phone, texting away. Please, just go! Oh, my god, I’m so sorry. I’m being a total bitch, huh?

Shawn: No, no. Listen, no. Come on. You’re not. No, you’re not. You’re just getting rid of the guy who’s giving you a hard time on your wedding day.

Ciara: Yeah.

Shawn: I’m sorry about that. Look, I really hope that you and Theo are really happy together. You deserve it. So I’ll see you at the church.

Ciara: Yes.

Shawn: See you there too. All right.

Ciara: Bye. [Sighs] So. Let’s get this show on the road.

Allie: Mm-hmm.

Theo: I guess I don’t have to have a best man.

Lani: No, you don’t. What about a best woman? I could stand up there with you. And I’m pretty sure I would be a better best man to you than a man could ever be.

[Theo and Abe laugh]

Theo: I think you’re right. Thank you.

Abe: Well, all right. Now that we have all that settled, I think we should go.

Theo: I’ll go get the check.

Abe: You know, I’m really worried about this. Ciara sounds pretty fragile.

Lani: I know, but that Theo is gonna stand by Ciara no matter what. So I think our job is to stand by him.

Abe: And keep our mouths shut.

Belle: All right. That should do it.

EJ: I can see why we pay you as well as we do.

Belle: Glad to help. Now I’ve got a wedding to get to.

EJ: I’ll pass all this on to Chad and Kate. Please give Ciara and Theo my best.

Belle: Yeah, will do.

EJ: And I know about your history with Samantha, and I’m sorry you feel the way you do about it. But I really think she was just trying to protect her brother. I mean, she didn’t make up anything about Nicole. All she wanted to do was make sure Eric knew the truth.

Belle: Well, I just wonder how Sami would feel if someone did to her what she did to Nicole.

[Pensive music]

Sami: What the hell are you talking about? Lucas, you promised me you would keep it a secret.

Lucas: I can keep a secret. I can–I told you, I almost told him, but I couldn’t go through with it.

Sami: Why didn’t you? I know how much you hate EJ.

Lucas: You’re right, I do hate him, but I couldn’t go through with it because I love you.

EJ: I’ve emailed you the revised contract. Crisis averted. Right, call me as soon as they’ve signed. Good work, Chad.

[Knock at door]

EJ: [Sighs] Nicole, what the hell are you doing here?

Allie: Makeup, perfect. Hair, gorgeous. And now all we need is the dress. Hey, hey, hey, hey. What’s up with the tears?

Ciara: Um, I don’t know. I guess I’m just really, really happy.

Allie: Right.

Ciara: It’s just that, um, ever since I woke up in the hospital, I feel like I’ve just been looking behind me, you know? And now I finally feel like I’m looking forward.

Allie: Are you sure? I mean, I know you said today is not about you or Ben, but–

Ciara: No, today is not about Ben. It is about me and Theo. Marrying him is all I want, so I’m gonna fix my makeup, um, and then maybe you can help me, uh,
zip up my dress.

Allie: Yeah.

Ciara: Okay.

[Phone rings]

Allie: Ben, hi. Um, I’m with Ciara. She’s getting ready for the wedding.

Ben: I know. That’s why I need your help.

Sami: Lucas, please don’t do this. I told you that I’m with EJ.

Lucas: Listen to me, I didn’t tell you that I love you again to plead my case. I told you I love you because that’s the reason why I didn’t tell EJ. I wanted to rub it in his smug, arrogant face, but I didn’t. I didn’t wanna do that to you.

Sami: You just can’t be objective about EJ because you’re blinded by your hatred for him.

Lucas: Hate doesn’t describe how I feel about him. But you know what, I’ll tell you who understands how I feel. It’s Rafe. Because he knows what it’s like to love and cherish you and loathe the man who treats you like property.

Sami: Okay, Lucas, I think it’s time for you to go.

Lucas: You know what, I’ll never get it. I’ll never understand in a million years why you love this man so much after he’s mistreated you all this time, but you do. You do, so because of that, I– I promise, I’m gonna keep my secret. I won’t tell yours, all right?

Sami: Thank you. And I’m sorry. I’m really sorry for dragging you into this, Lucas.

Lucas: I’m not. I’m not because I love you so much.

Nicole: Are you surprised to see me?

EJ: Not pleasantly. Nicole, if you’re looking for tea and sympathy, you’ve come to the wrong place.

Nicole: Well, I’m definitely not looking for tea. But I won’t say no to a martini.

EJ: And really, you need to start thinking about preserving your last few shreds of dignity. So if you’ve come to whine to me about Samantha, just don’t.

Nicole: I never mentioned that woman’s name.

EJ: Because it would be pathetic if you tried to blame her for your fall from grace. You were the one who married Francis of Assisi and screwed around with
Beelzebub.

Nicole: Oh, we do agree on one thing. What I did to Eric was wrong, and as the unfaithful wife, I deserve whatever happens to me.

EJ: Look, I’m very busy, so why don’t you go spill your guts to your old chum, Chloe? I’m sure she’s really good at throwing a pity party. Years of experience.

Nicole: Well, since you did mention Sami, I have to ask– what’s your take on what she did? Hmm? Do you think it’s okay to expose other people’s sins? That
that’s not playing God with other people’s lives?

EJ: Please, Nicole. You’re embarrassing yourself. You can’t prove Samantha did anything to you. And it’s not her fault that your paramour likes to brag about his conquests.

Nicole: Well. I’m having much more fun than I thought I would. And you wanna know the best part? The denouement, if you will?

EJ: I’m calling security. This is absolutely ridic–

Nicole: Your sister wrote you a letter, EJ.

[Suspenseful music]

EJ: Where did you get that?

Nicole: What difference does it make? As they say, read it and weep.

[Dramatic music]

EJ: [Clears throat] You’ve read this?

Nicole: Yes, I have. I’m an adulteress and a snoop.

EJ: This is not funny.

Nicole: Well, I’m having a lot more fun than I did at my anniversary party. And may I point out, at least you’re reading about your slut of a wife in the privacy of your own office. Eric heard about me at the pub in front of his mother and oh, his devoted twin, who we now know is no better than me.

Belle: Hey.

Shawn: Ah, you made it.

Belle: Hey. Is something wrong?

Shawn: Well, let’s just say that I walked in on Claire beating Ciara with her own wedding bouquet and, uh, everything went downhill from there. My mom’s plane got turned around, so she can’t make it. Doug injured his rotator cuff playing racquetball.

Belle: Aw. And?

Lani: Is it this way?

Shawn: And I’m just worried about Ciara, you know. I just think she’s, uh, wound so tightly, you know? How’s my smile?

Belle: Strained. Just like Abe’s.

Abe: Well, it’s good to see you guys.

Theo: Hey. Where’s Ciara?

Shawn: Uh, she’s on her way. Yeah, Allies’ taking care of everything.

Ben: I know if I just get Ciara alone for a little while, I can get her to remember. Allie, are you still there?

Allie: I am. And I’ll do it.

Ben: What?

Allie: I said I’ll do it.

Ben: Really?

Allie: Yes, really.

Ben: Oh, my god, Allie, thank you. Thank you so much.

Allie: I didn’t think that this wedding was a good idea to begin with, but after being with Ciara this morning, I know it’s not.

Ben: God bless you. Thank you again; I gotta go.

Ciara: Who were you talking to?

Ben: Allie’s on board. She’s gonna do it.

Claire: Great, but I just thought of something else. When Ciara doesn’t show up to that church, nobody’s gonna believe that she stood Theo up, so they’re gonna start looking for her.

Ben: Yeah, you’re right. We gotta find a way to stall them.

Claire: Well, I think I just thought of something. Nobody’s gonna start looking for the bride if the bride is standing right there in front of them.

Ben: I don’t get it.

Claire: Just listen.

Allie: Just a problem with Henry’s sitter.

Ciara: Oh, no, don’t tell–

Allie: I just have to run home so quick, but I will be there at the church.  You don’t need to worry about anything.

Ciara: Okay, um, so before you go, could you just zip me up?

Allie: Perfect.

Ciara: Okay.

Allie: By the way, the dress is gorgeous, you are gorgeous, and I will see you at the church.

Ciara: Okay, great. Thank you.

[Suspenseful music]

Allie: [Sighs] And she lived happily ever after.

Sami: Lucas, I– I appreciate what you’re doing, and I just don’t know when EJ’s gonna be back, and I don’t want the two of you to run into each other, so–

Lucas: I know, I know. I got you. [Sighs] Just so you know, if and when things go wrong between you two, I will always be there for you.

[Apprehensive music]

EJ: You’ve done what you set out to do. You can go now.

Nicole: Yes. I guess my work is done here. It has to hurt, knowing that it was Lucas, right? Seems you underestimated his assets.

EJ: [Yelling]

[Line trills]

EJ: I need a new phone number for my sister Kristen. I need it now, damn it!

Theo: Where’s Ciara?

Allie: She’s outside, waiting for Shawn to walk her down the aisle.

Shawn: How’s she doing?

Allie: I think she’s gonna be fine.

Ben: When everybody in this town thought that Vincent had killed you, I never gave up on you. I found you. I saved you. And I will never, ever forget that day.

Ciara: [Panting] No. No, Ben means nothing to me. He means absolutely nothing to me.

Ben: [Sighs]

[Apprehensive music]

Philip: Lucas. I was just looking for you. Where you been?

Lucas: I was just talking to Sami.

Philip: Did you tell her about the letter?

Lucas: No, it’s gone. What’s the point?

Philip: Actually, I have a confession to make.

Nicole: Well, Sami, you did it. You destroyed my marriage. Now let’s see how you like it.

Sami: Ha! Ej! Hi! What are you doing home so early?

Ej: I know. Just for some reason, I had this overwhelming urge to come home to my loving, faithful wife.

[Wedding march playing]

Claire: Surprise.

[Tense music]

Ciara: Um, driver? You just missed the turn. Hello? This isn’t the way to the church. Excuse me.

Ben: That’s because we aren’t going to the church.

Ciara: Ben?

Ben: Happy anniversary, Ciara.

John: Ah, yeah, why not. Speech, speech, come on.

Nicole: No, I don’t have anything to say!

John: It’s your anniversary, kids.

[All chattering]

Sami: [Chuckles] I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m not expecting anyone. Stop looking at me like that.

EJ: Then why do you keep checking the time and hovering near the door?

Sami: What? You just know how I feel about nicole. I’m not exactly thrilled to be here.

EJ: I know, but it’s unlike you to hang about the fringes of any party.

Sami: Yeah, well, I’m just hoping to get time alone with eric. It’s been so long since I’ve seen him.

EJ: He’s looking well.

Sami: Yeah, probably ’cause he’s gotten ten months away from nicole.

EJ: Or maybe it’s about being back with her again.

Sami: Hmm.

EJ: [Chuckles]

Sami: All right, well, I’M… glad that he’s happy.

EJ: Then join the party. Come on.

Sami: You know what? Nicole’s about to make some teary toast and everyone’s gonna be all emotional and happy for her. I think it’s better if I stay by the door just in case I have to puke.

EJ: [Chuckles] Now, that’s the samantha I know and love.

[Smooches]

Nicole: I-I-I– I just wanna thank everybody for coming here on such short notice and helping eric and I celebrate our one-year anniversary. You know, living apart for so long was a real… challenge. But I–I just want to say thank you again for your friendship and your support through all of this, and… honey, I… I am just so incredibly proud of you and your work in the congo and it just makes me love you so much more… and miss you so much more. And as I told eric, um, it was one year ago today was the happiest day of my life.

Sami: Here she goes.

EJ: [Stifles a laugh]

Nicole: And it means the world to me to share this happiness with people who love eric as much as I do. And, uh… I remember saying that no matter what life threw at us, we would get through it together. And we have.

Eric: Yes.

Nicole: I love you.

Eric: I love you.

[Tender music]

Eric: I can’t even express how good it is to be home with my wife, surrounded by my family and some very old, dear friends. What nicole said about our separation– it was very, very hard for us. And I take full responsibility. I know how much I asked of her and how much she went through with me being so far away, and… she just made me feel like the luckiest man in the world to have a wife like you. One year ago today, I told you it took me 20 years to realize that I can’t live without you. And I don’t ever want to live without you. And I mean that more than ever.

[Music darkens]

Eric: Please… [Chuckles]

[All laugh]

[Soft orchestration]

Roman: What the hell is he talking about?

Philip: What the hell is he even doing here?

Eric: Why don’t you get out before I throw you out.

Nicole: Honey, he can’t– he doesn’t want us to be happy. That’s what this is all about. He just wants to ruin our night.

Eric: It’s okay. I know he’s lying. You know what? The best thing for you to do is turn around right now and leave.

Roman: Hey, I’ve kicked this clown out of here before. Say the word, I’ll do it again.

Xander: You know, it really is bloody decent of you to finally fly back just in time for your first wedding anniversary. I know for a fact that your wife has been very lonely in your absence. You must have a screw loose to leave a woman like that all alone for this amount of time. Excuse me, miss.

Sami: [Scoffs]

Eric: You know, why don’t you just save your breath? I don’t believe anything you’re saying.

Xander: I’m staying right here. Ugh.

Chloe: This stand-off is embarrassing. Do you think he’s drunk?

Brady: Eric and nicole love each other. He’s gonna give up and get out. No one will remember what he said.

Sami: Poor eric looks like he’s been punched in the face.

EJ: It sounds like you think this xander guy is right, that nicole did cheat on him.

Sami: Well, what motive would he have for showing up here and lying?

EJ: I’m sure he’s got some scheme in mind.

Sami: I don’t know. The look on nicole’s face? She’s scared of something.

Nicole: I heard my husband tell you to leave. What are you, deaf or something?

John: I’d be happy to show him out.

Philip: So would I.

Roman: Me too.

Nicole: Looks like we have a quorum.

Xander: Oh, but the fun’s just getting started. Hey, how ’bout A… ahh, refill, mate?

Roman: Listen, clown, you’ve had your fun; it didn’t work. Get the hell out of here before you make a bigger ass of yourself.

Xander: Well, the least you can do is refill eric’s glass. All of a sudden, he’s having a really bad night. Oh, but he doesn’t drink, does he? Maybe he’ll start again when he hears the rest of what I have to tell him. Including the name of the man who had sex with his wife.

Nicole: You shut up and get out, xander.

Xander: Oh, I don’t know, nicole, look at eric. I think he’s a little curious. Am I right?

Eli: I told you, I’m not gonna believe anything–

Xander: It was me! Yours truly! And let me tell you, she loved every minute of it.
Your mission:

Eric: I know the things that you’ve done to nicole in the past. And you’re the last man on earth she’d ever want to sleep with.

Xander: You do not know your wife as well as you think you do.

Brady: You’ve had your fun. You’ve had your fun. Let’s go.

Xander: Lay one more hand on me…and see what happens.

Eric: I can handle him, brady. You’ve only lusted after nicole all these years and she never wanted a part of any of it. You know why I know that, even after you made her marry you? She still never had sex with you. Because she only saw you for the pathetic loser you are.

Xander: Are you really gonna let him talk to me like that? After I was there for you the night when he called to say he was staying in africa for another three months. You were a mess!

Nicole: Shut up.

Xander: I was having a nice drink at the bar there when she comes barreling in and starts knocking them back like there was no tomorrow. You remember that, right?

Eric: Do you remember that, dad?

Roman: No, I don’T.

Xander: Well, that’s ’cause you weren’t tending bar. You know why I know? ‘Cause the drinks weren’t watered down. Anyway, after hours, we were back at the salem inn. We were good and drunk by then, but I know you remember this, nicole. We went up to my room for another drink and one thing led to another. You see, eric, you’d been gone for a very long time and nicole was very…needy. Fortunately, I was there for her in her hours of need.

Eric: You must have been hallucinating. Drunk or sober, nicole would never be alone in a room with you.

Xander: I understand why you’d have a hard time believing me so maybe you should ask your sister, samantha. She knows what happened.

Eric: Whoa, whoa, what do you have to do with this?

Xander: Tell him.

[Dramatic music]

Xander: Go ahead, sami, you know you’ve been holding out on your brother, your whole family. Tell them what you know.

Sami: Don’t put me in the middle of this.

Xander: Oh, don’t play dumb. You said you saw nicole and me going into the salem inn.

Eric: Is that true, sami?

Sami: Um, okay, look. Eric, what happened was brady was in the hospital after kristen ran him off the road. I had to go find mom and john to tell them the news. They were having dinner at the bistro so I went there to find them.

Marlena: John and I saw sami outside the salem inn.

Sami: Right. Before that happened…

Xander: Go ahead.

Sami: [Sighs sharply] I saw… xander and nicole going into the salem inn together. Look, brady was in critical condition and that’s why I didn’t tell you, mom. That’s why I didn’t tell anyone. I’m so sorry, eric. I don’t know what happened when they went in there. I wanted to find out more before I made an issue out of it.

Eric: Did you go to xander’s room?

Nicole: No.

[Musical sting]

[Softly] No. You know how upset I was when you told me you were staying in africa again. So I did come here and I did have too much to drink and xander also happened to be here. Look, I drank too much. I was in no shape to drive so I went to the salem inn and I got a room to sleep it off.

Xander: Yeah, but it was my room and there wasn’t any sleeping.

Nicole: That is not true! I got my own room. And you know what, sami? I told you the same thing when you came knocking on my door, pretending to be concerned about me.

Sami: Eric, I had to find out more information. I was just really concerned… for you. And, um… I’m so sorry to have to say this but, uh, the inn doesn’t have any record of nicole booking a room.

Nicole: I explained that! I was so out of sorts I used my basic black corporate card, okay? That is why there is nothing in my name.

Sami: Which I was just about to explain to eric if you hadn’t jumped down my throat.

Nicole: Oh, yes, I jumped down your throat.

Sami: I do think it’s odd that you happened to carry around the corporate receipt in your purse to show me. I don’t know, almost as if you were…covering your tracks.

Brady: Sami, I–I told nicole to hold onto the receipt.

Sami: Why?

Brady: Why? To reimburse the company. That’s the end of the story. Does anybody understand why we are allowing this moron to hijack this anniversary party?

Xander: Why are you covering for nicole, brady? Still feeling guilty about coming between her and eric back in the day? ‘Cause you know as well as I do that nicole and I did get drunk at that bar and then we went up to my room at the salem inn and drank some more. But she wasn’t so drunk that she didn’t know what she was doing. She was furious at eric for leaving her all alone with his niece and those two little brats for three more months and she wanted to get back at him. And what better way to do that then to jump into bed with me, where I showed her a damn good time. The truth is, eric, she just couldn’t get enough of me.

Sami: [Screams]

[Clattering]

Eric: Come on! Come on!

[All chattering]

Xander: I get it. No man likes to hear how much his wife liked being with another man especially when it’s the truth! Ask your wife why she hired me at basic black. She had to; it’s the only way I’d keep quiet about us having sex, mate!

[Door slams]

Eric: I’m fine. Just let me go.

[Tense music]
Is it true? Did you give xander a job to keep him quiet about the two of you? Did you know that your toughest cleaning problems

Roman: All right. Okay, I’m gonna wrap this hand.

Eric: Dad, I don’t need that.

Roman: If I don’t do it now, it’s gonna look like a boxing glove in the morning, okay? Now, listen to me, xander’s a troublemaker, all right? That’s what he lives for. He’s just jealous that nicole wants you, not him.

Chloe: Well, this night didn’t go the way it was supposed to.

Brady: Not quite.

Chloe: How did xander think he could get away with that? Nicole would never let him touch her.

Nicole: Xander and me? What, are you nuts? I would never–

Brady: I over– I overheard xander when I came in, saying that you two had slept together behind eric’s back. Actually, he put it a little more colorfully than that.

Nicole: And you’re just… mentioning this now?

Brady: [Sighs] Is it true?

[Tense music]

Nicole: Yes.

Chloe: Wait, do you know something? Did nicole hire xander to keep him quiet?

Brady: Xander doesn’t want nicole to be happy and he would do anything to destroy her marriage. And I’m not gonna let him get away with it.

John: Easy, kid.

Philip: Where’s brady going?

Chloe: I don’t know. But I have to talk to nicole. Excuse me.

John: Should’ve thrown that bastard out of here before he opened his lousy mouth.

Marlena: I’m not sure that would’ve changed anything.

John: What do you mean?

Marlena: You could see the pain that nicole was in.

John: What do you mean? You think she was in pain because–’cause, what? She laid down with that jerk?

Marlena: I think if she hadn’t done that, she would’ve denied it. Vehemently denied it.

John: She did deny it.

Marlena: Well… john, it wasn’t that convincing. She was worried, she was stammering. At least, that’s my take on it.

John: What the hell do I know? You’re the shrink so I… I’m guessing that your take was probably pretty accurate.

Marlena: I’m hoping I’m wrong. But in this case, I think, for once, xander was telling the truth.

[Dramatic music]

Xander: [Sighs] Well, sami, you came through for me. Makes me glad I didn’t kill you like kristen wanted me to. A cool million just for a few minutes work and one punch to the jaw. That’s if it’s all here. The way sami took down nicole without batting an eye, I wouldn’t put it past her to try and cheat me, too.

[Intense music]

EJ: Why didn’t you tell me that you suspected nicole of cheating on eric?

Sami: I didn’t want it to be true. I mean, look, I don’t like nicole, but eric loves her and I wouldn’t want her to break his heart. Besides, I just can’t believe that nicole would cheat on someone as honorable as my brother.

EJ: Hmm. Well, being far apart is difficult for any marriage. Even if the distance is only emotional.

Sami: Ej–

EJ: I put that distance between us.

Sami: You were going through hell.

EJ: There’s no excuse for it. You were there, I pushed you away. Truth is… I was afraid I could no longer be the husband you needed.

Sami: I understand that now.

EJ: I should’ve explained it at the time, but unfortunately, I was too self-consumed to consider your feelings. There’s no excuse for it.

Sami: Ej, we have been over this.

EJ: I know, I just feel like I need to tell you again. Especially in light of what eric’s going through. I just thank god that you hung with me, didn’t turn to another man. I would’ve lost my mind.

Sami: [Sighs deeply]

Chloe: Listen, just take some deep breaths, okay? This is all gonna get straightened out. Eric knows what kind of man xander is. He’s not gonna believe him.

[Emotional string music]

Nicole: I think he kind of does.

Chloe: He knows how much you love him.

Nicole: [Sighs]

Eric: Please tell me the truth. You hate xander. Why would you hire him at basic black?

Chloe: Because of me. For reasons that I won’t get into right now, but… I had to take a leave of absence and brady was still recovering from the car accident. Nicole had this entire workload herself and we knew that xander had corporate experience. I’m telling you, nicole only brought xander on board because he knew all the operations at gabi chic, our main competitor. She hated working with him but, you know, we thought it’d give us a leg up. Isn’t that right? Tell him.

Sami: I think nicole should tell him the whole story. The true story. I think you owe him that.

Marlena: Sami, why don’t you mind your own business? In fact, I think that everybody should give eric and nicole some time to work this out on their own.

Eric: I need you to answer one simple question. Did you hire xander because you were short-handed or to shut him up?

Nicole: [Sobbing] I am so sorry.
[Sobbing]

Nicole: Oh, my god, chloe, what have I done?

Marlena: Our son needs us.

Roman: Right, I’ll drive. John, we’re going to find eric.

John: Yeah, sure.

Roman: I’ll bring her home after we talk to eric.

Belle: Poor eric. How could she do this to him?

John: Well, honey, it sounds like nicole was in a bad way. Eric being gone must’ve really taken a toll on her.

Belle: Yeah, well, how is that an excuse for sleeping with the worst person on the planet? I mean, how– how could she do this to him?

Sami: You know what? Let’s get out of here. I don’t want to stay and watch nicole try to get sympathy from everyone.

EJ: I see there are things that time doesn’t alter.

Sami: What does that mean?

EJ: How much you hate nicole.

Sami: I have lots of good reasons, don’t you think? Let’s go.

Nicole: You did this, you bitch!

[Tense music]

Xander: It is all here. Minus the bail money, which I can get back. And cold hard cash doesn’t disappear like a bank transfer.

[Door opens]

Brady: You have some explaining to do.

Xander: Party’s over? It’s a bit early.

Brady: Why’d you do it?

Xander: I just thought eric deserved to know what kind of woman he married.

Brady:

[Scoffs] Yeah, sure. You’re just a stickler for morality, aren’t you? No, really, what are you getting out of this?

Xander: It’s just a laugh, that’s all.

Brady: Xander, you had nicole under your thumb, then you decided to destroy her marriage in the most hurtful and humiliating way so I wanna know why you did it and why you did it now.

Sami: I didn’t actually make you cheat on your husband, nicole, sorry.

Nicole: You. You put xander up to this. I know you did. You are the reason he showed up here.

Sami: You are not blaming me for cheating on your husband. It’s pathetic. You know, when I saw you and xander going into the salem inn together, I thought, “oh, boy, there’s nicole up to her old tricks.” Eric used to be a priest. He takes those vows seriously. You ever heard of the ten commandments? “Thou shalt not commit adultery”?

Nicole: Oh, you’re quoting the bible, now? Well, here’s a verse for you. “Let she who is without sin cast the first stone.”

[Door slams shut]

[Melancholy music]

Eric: [Exhales deeply]

Xander: She was furious at eric for leaving her all alone with his niece and those two little brats for three more months and she wanted to get back at him. And what better way to do that then to jump into bed with me, where I showed her a damn good time. The truth is, eric, she just couldn’t get enough of me.

Nicole: [Sobbing] I am so sorry.

[Pounding on door]

Eric: Go away!

Roman: It’s us, son, me and your mom. Open the door.

Marlena: Honey, we’re not leaving until we talk to you.

Xander: Who are you to give me a hard time about nicole? When you found out that she was cheating on you with eric, you forced her to leave town with a baby in her arms.

Brady: Yeah, I did that. I did that because at the time, I wanted nicole and it… it was just injury to my pride, xander, and it didn’t do anything for me. Nothing, because eric and nicole found their way back to each other because they belong together. But it just doesn’T… it doesn’t make sense, why you did what you did. You already used your one-night stand to blackmail nicole to get you a nice cushy job at basic black, so why would you throw it away?

Xander: Who says I have?

Brady: Oh, trust me, cuz, you’re history. And don’t ask me for a reference.

Xander: Should’ve known you’d do this.

Brady: Yeah, you should’ve. You had your little fun and now you’re broke and unemployable, so I go back to my original question. Why did you do it? I don’t even think you’re stupid enough to think that nicole would just go into your arms after you blew up her marriage. So that leaves one reason,

Xander: Good old-fashioned money, right?

Xander: What money? You just told me I lost my job.

Brady: What don’t you want me to see?

Xander: [Scoffs] I don’t care what you see.

Brady: That’s funny because I walked in here and you have not moved from that spot since I came through that door. What do we have there?

[Intriguing music]

Brady: Looks like somebody paid you off to ruin eric and nicole’s relationship. Who the hell was it?

Chloe: I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that nicole actually slept with xander.

Philip: This must be very hard for you. Why don’t you let me take you home?

Chloe: I can’t go home without knowing that brady’s okay. I’m sure he went after xander.

Philip: I hope he beats the crap out of him.

Chloe: Well, he’s recovering from a really bad accident. I’m afraid what xander might do.

Philip: Where’re you going?

John: Samantha, your mother and father, they’re not coming back tonight. Belle and I, we’re, uh, we’re gonna head on out.

Belle: Yeah, I’m glad that mom and roman are with eric though. Poor guy.

Sami: I mean, it was only a matter of time before something like this happened.

Belle: Didn’t surprise you, though, huh?

Sami: Well, it shouldn’t have surprised any of us. I mean, this is nicole walker we’re talking about.

Belle: Actually, it’s nicole brady, and she seems to think you had something to do with what xander did tonight.

Sami: Oh, please, she thinks I’m behind climate change. She’s just trying to point the finger. I’m sure she’s chasing after eric right now, begging for forgiveness.

EJ: Eric is a deeply religious man, but I think it would be hard for any husband to forgive what nicole did.

Sami: You know what? This has been such an awful night. Let’s just get out of here.

EJ: Of course.

Sami: Good night. Good night, john.

John: Good night, samantha.

Belle: Yup. Sami couldn’t get out of here fast enough.

John: Sweetheart–

Belle: I wonder why.

John: Do you– do you really think that sami had something to do with xander outing nicole?

Belle: Yes, I more than know it.

John: But she loves her brother.

Belle: Yeah, well, she hates nicole. She thinks nicole’s the worst thing that ever happened to eric, dad. You know that.

John: Yeah, I do, but– you think that she would set her own brother up to be humiliated like he was tonight?

Belle: Well, she’s telling herself that he’ll be better off, that he’ll get over it.

John: Really?

Belle: Yes. I know my sister. She hates nicole for keeping sydney from her for so long. So she saw a chance to make nicole feel the same kind of pain and she took it. And I bet she did not give one thought to how that would hurt eric.

Eric: I know why you came. There’s nothing that you can say that’s gonna make it any better. My wife slept with a pig, xander. She hates the man! I flew 14 hours to be with nicole on our anniversary and now I know. I know what our marriage means to her now.

Roman: It means a lot.

Marlena: Look, your father’s right. You know, you and nicole have been through some rough spots before. You’ve always fought your way back together. I think that kind of love can get through almost anything.

Eric: No, not this time.

Marlena: Eric–

Eric: No! Not this time! I’m sorry. Thank you for coming over, but I really want to be alone right now.

Marlena: [Softly] Eric… I’m so sorry. We love you so much. And we’re so proud of you, of the work that you do, the man that you’ve become. Oh, darling. Oh, I know it’s cold comfort right now, but you’ll get through this. And we will be here the whole time. Whatever we can do. We’ll be here for you.

Roman: We love you, son, all right? And like your mom says, right, anything you need, any time you want to talk. You got that? I love you, all right?

Eric: I know you guys are here for me. I love you.

Marlena: Call us for anything at all.

Eric: [Sniffles]
[Exhales shakily]

Nicole: [Crying softly] God, you know, an hour ago, I was the unhappiest woman in the world and now I can’t believe how lucky I am.

[Emotional music]

[Glass shatters]

[Intriguing music]

Brady: So, who hired you to ruin my brother’s marriage?

Xander: It’s none of your damned business.

Brady: Uh-huh.

Xander: But did you see the look on your pious brother’s face when I told him I’d had his bride? I’d have done it for free just for that.

Brady: Tell me who hired you, xander. How much did you get, huh?

Chloe: Brady!

Xander: Get your hands off my money! Oh, and now look who’s come to rescue you. I’m afraid your… favorite songbird isn’t gonna be much help. Not with that broken wing. Hey, I am sorry that we’re not gonna be working together anymore, but could you do me a favor? Get your boss out of my sight.

Chloe: Are you okay?

Brady: Nah, I’m fine. That briefcase is full of money. He pretty much admitted to me that he was paid to do what he did tonight. I tried to get a name out of him but I–

Chloe: But I stormed in and ruined it; I’m so sorry.

Brady: No, no, chloe, no. He wasn’t gonna talk anyway.

Chloe: Well, after you left, nicole accused sami of setting this up. We both know that she hates nicole.

Brady: And if there’s one person who can get that kind of money quickly, it’s samantha brady dimera.

Sami: Oh, what a night. Poor eric. Tried to warn him about nicole. He just wouldn’t listen.

EJ: He’s in love with her.

Sami: I just never understood it.

EJ: I thought you wanted a nightcap.

Sami: I changed my mind. I’m just so worked up, I thought maybe a nice warm shower might help me calm down. If you would, uh, like to join me?

EJ: Mm, as tempting as that is, I have a question for you first.

Sami: Okay, shoot.

EJ: What did nicole mean when she said, “let she who is without sin cast the first stone”?

Sami: I don’t know. Ugh, this button is crazy. Um, I think maybe she just found religion, that’s all.

EJ: It sounded like an accusation. What sin have you committed now, samantha?

[Dramatic music]

Belle: I don’t remember, do you take milk in your tea?

John: No, not at all, honey.

Belle: Okay, good.

John: [Sighs]

Belle: How are you?

John: I can’t shake this theory that you have that sami’s behind this. Belle, if… if she arranged for eric to have to go through this, maybe it was because she thought that eric needed to know the truth.

Belle: There are plenty of other ways he could’ve learned the truth, dad. Sami could’ve told him privately, calmly, kindly. What she just did to him was cruel.

John: But if she just went to eric and she told him privately, I don’t think he would’ve believed her.

Belle: I mean, I– probably not. And I don’t know that sami and xander were in cahoots, but nicole seems to think so. And my gut tells me she’s right. For some reason, sami wanted to take nicole down in public.

[Keys jingle]

Marlena: Hi.

John: So how is eric?

Marlena: Not good. Not good.

[Brooding string music]

Nicole: I can’t believe we’re finally married.

Eric: We have a lot of– a lot of time to make up for.

Nicole: Yes, we do. We have a whole lifetime together.

Eric: [Whispers] I love you so much.

Nicole: I love you.

[Door opens]

[Dramatic music]
