Mariah

Mariah sat barefoot on the floor, leaning against the doorway of her makeshift cell. Bowie was active today, and she told him she loved feeling him moving in her belly. She’d accepted that her plan to lure her captor out by covering the camera had failed. She needed to know why someone went through the trouble to keep them here. Later, the dumbwaiter sent down a tray of protein bars and prenatal vitamins. She told Bowie that at least their captor was taking good care of them. The protein bars meant that this was someone who knew her eating habits or had studied them recently. She assumed this had to be about money, like a ransom. She wondered if Sharon or Abby had been contacted. She theorized that this could be about Bowie. As a Chancellor-Newman-Abbott, he was a worth a fortune. She knew Abby would give millions. But if that’s what this was about, why was she still trapped here? She wondered if someone who hated her was trying to punish her. Was she right before when she thought it was someone from the cult? She had an outburst, but then she told herself that she had to stay sane and keep it together for Bowie. “I’m not gonna let anything happen to us. To you.” She promised they’d find their way home.

Tessa on "Young and The Restless" 8/19/21

Tessa went to Crimson Lights after she’d gotten back from her visit with her sister. She’d wanted to meet Crystal face to face and see if anyone had threatened her. She told Sharon and Rey that Crystal was fine, and she had no reason to believe that anyone from their past had taken Mariah. Tessa was happy her sister was okay, but she was even more desperate to find Mariah. Sharon revealed that they’d discovered some disturbing information that she’d decided not to tell Tessa over the phone. Tessa sat down, and Rey explained that Mariah hadn’t made any calls or used her credit cards since she left, which lead him to believe she wasn’t sending the texts. He assured Tessa that he was tracing Mariah’s steps before she disappeared. Tessa started crying as she realized she was right – someone took Mariah.

Tessa blamed herself, but Sharon said it wasn’t her fault. Sharon understood the feeling, though – her daughter needed her, and she didn’t realize it. Rey said Mariah wouldn’t want either of them to blame themselves. Tessa cried that it was too late for that. She knew, deep down, something was wrong from the beginning, when Mariah left without a word or a packed bag. Instead of acting on her fears, Tessa had rationalized things. She said if she’d been more vocal and forced the police to do something, maybe Mariah would be home now. Rey stated that there wasn’t enough information to launch an investigation back then. He was adamant that Tessa did the best she could with the information she had. He promised that he’d find Mariah. Sharon turned to Rey, with a tear-streaked face, and asked what they could do. He said there was something important they could do.

Devon and Abby on "Young and The Restless" 8/19/21

Devon visited Abby at the Chancellor house. She said she was trying not to think that something bad happened to Mariah or the baby. He had some information that he thought might put her in a better state of mind. He reached out to Christine about Chance. The reason Abby hadn’t heard from Chance was because he was laying low due to a development in the case. Abby asked what kind of development. Christine didn’t know that, but she was going to try and inform Chance about the situation with Mariah. Abby felt that Devon crossed the line by reaching out to Chance without even asking her. She didn’t want Chance to worry or feel pressured to come home. Devon suggested that Chance should be brought up to speed so he could make an informed decision. Abby said she couldn’t ask Chance to leave his mission because she missed him. Devon said that Chance and Abby decided to have a child, and now she was being forced to deal with some unsettling things on her own. She said she wasn’t alone – she had Devon, Tessa, Sharon and Rey to support her while they tried to find Mariah. Devon was grateful to be part of Abby’s support system, but he said her husband was the one who should be here with her. Tessa came home, and Sharon joined her.

Sharon on "Young and The Restless" 8/19/21

Tessa and Sharon explained that Rey wanted everyone to keep texting Mariah’s phone and pretending to they thought she was the one responding. It might buy them some more time to keep Mariah safe while the police searched. Sharon said Rey would bring Mariah home, and the person who did this would get what they deserved. Devon had somewhere to be. He said to let him know if there was anything else he could do. Abby walked Devon to the door. He hoped she could forgive him for crossing the line. She said there was nothing to forgive. She appreciated him looking out for her. She wanted her husband to come home, but not until he was completely ready. She knew Chance was making the world a better safer place. Devon said that there were other agents who could do that work, but Chance only had one wife. Either way, he knew Chance was doing all he could to get back to Abby. She agreed. He left. The group discussed reaching out to “Mariah.” The last message they got from Mariah’s phone was the one where she said to stop pressuring her, she’d be home when she was ready and the intervention was making it worse. Sharon felt she should be the first to text, since she was the mother. She wrote a message saying she waited so long to text because she didn’t want to bombard “Mariah” and she was sorry she upset her. Tessa and Abby thought that sounded perfect, so Sharon sent it. Abby decided she should go next and offer some words of support and say she knew Mariah was taking good care of their little boy. Tessa said she’d say that she meant well and she missed Mariah, and she’d be there, arms wide open, when Mariah returned. Tessa tearfully imagined how overjoyed she’d be when she saw Mariah. Tessa hoped the kidnapper would text back. It’d be a sign that they’d successfully tricked the abductor. Abby was frustrated and mad at herself for letting herself think that Mariah chose to disappear. Tessa said not to go there. She was in that place earlier, and nothing good came from it. She said Mariah needed their positive thoughts. Abby agreed

Devon went to Crimson Lights and asked Rey about offering a reward for information on Mariah’s whereabouts. Rey thought that would tip the kidnappers off and possibly put Mariah in more danger. Devon asked how bad Rey thought this situation really was. Rey didn’t think they should think the worst. Devon was trying not to, but they knew how ugly the world could be. He was hoping Rey could give him a reason to be optimistic. Rey thought it was a good sign that the text stream was still ongoing. “Look, to be blunt, if things were over, there would be no reason to keep up a facade,” Rey said. Rey thought this was someone from Mariah’s past – Sharon had mentioned someone named Alice Johnson. He also thought this could be someone who wanted a child, in which case, that person would make sure Mariah stayed healthy and strong. If that was the case, Devon worried about what would happen after Mariah gave birth. Rey said they’d bring Mariah home before they had to find out. Rey had to go back to the station for another case, but he’d keep Devon in the loop. Rey left, and Devon set up a meeting with someone.

Mariah” sent a group response thanking them for checking in and saying she loved them. Sharon, who was back at Crimson Lights, wondered who this person was and what they wanted. Back at the mansion, Tessa and Abby received the text too. Abby supposed they should be glad the ruse worked. Tessa swore she would do anything to hear from Mariah herself. Ben/Stitch showed up and Abby remarked that he was back in town. She told him Mariah was still missing. They hugged.

Nick ran into Ashland at Society and asked if he was meeting Victoria for dinner. Ashland was there to get takeout. A quiet dinner was appealing after the day he had. Nick heard Ashland let Harrison go live in Milan. Ashland called it the hardest decision he’d ever made, followed by the most difficult moment he’d ever experienced – saying goodbye to his son. Nick admired Ashland’s choice. Ashland said it was right for Harrison, and it helped to have Victoria to come home too. Nick heard about the engagement. Ashland knew things were moving fast, and he expected Nick to have an issue with it. Nick was happy Victoria was happy, but the engagement had some obvious obstacles, and he didn’t want to see her heartbroken. Ashland didn’t know why the Newman men thought Victoria was so fragile, when she was the strongest person he’d ever met, and she didn’t make foolish decisions. Nick agreed that Victoria was tough, but he said she’d made some questionable choices in the past, especially when it came to her love life. “There’s one of them right there,” Nick said when he saw Billy walk in. Ashland asked if Nick was implying he was another one of Victoria’s mistakes. Nick wasn’t trying to be insulting; he just didn’t want Victoria disillusioned or disappointed. Ashland said he wasn’t Billy, and he’d learned it was problematic to compare the present to the past. He said Victoria didn’t have to justify her feelings or actions to anyone. He loved her with everything he had, and he believed she felt the same way. Nick believed that, and he mentioned Victoria said the same thing. Ashland suggested that everyone stop second guessing Victoria or passing judgment on her heart. He felt that the past was in the past. He and Victoria were living in the moment and looking toward the future. He grabbed his takeout and left.

Billy saw Ashland leaving, and he went over to Nick. Billy thought Ashland had looked a little peeved, and he assumed that Ashland and Nick had discussed the engagement. Billy sensed he and Nick were in agreement that this marriage would be a mistake. He’d tried his best to be supportive, but he couldn’t do that anymore. He mentioned how quickly Ashland and Victoria were moving. “Interesting observation coming from Mr. Spontaneity himself,” Nick replied. Billy saw the irony, but he said they were talking about Victoria. He thought she was caught up in the intensity of the relationship instead of making sure it was right for her. Nick brought up Victoria and Billy’s impulsive Jamaican wedding. Billy conceded his hypocrisy, but he also thought he and Nick were on the same page about the engagement. Nick had reservations, but he didn’t think they were coming from the same place as Billy’s. He thought Billy was jealous or that he didn’t want to admit Victoria was capable of moving on from him. Nick said Billy had a great girl, so why wasn’t that enough? Billy was worried about the mother of his children, and he loved her the way Nick loved Sharon. Billy noted that he could bring up Nick’s relationship rap sheet too. Nick said that if Victoria wanted to marry Ashland, there was nothing Nick or Billy could do about it. He just wanted her to be happy. Billy did too, but how happy would Victoria be if Ashland didn’t make it out of this? Billy hoped he was wrong, but he saw a lot of pain in Victoria’s future and possibly Johnny and Katie’s too. Nick knew Victoria would be hurt if Ashland died, but her family would support her. Billy said he and Victoria would always be family because of their kids. Nick told Billy to live his own life and let Victoria do the same. He left.

Ashland got home and found that Victoria had set the table and lit candles. She said he got the food, so she was providing the ambience. She asked if the walk helped after saying goodbye to Harrison. He said not as much as being with her. She showed him the wedding venue, the Newman Palazzo. He said it was gorgeous, like his bride. The doorbell rang, and she told him to send the person away. Ashland ended up letting them in, because it was Billy. Billy saw that Victoria was dressed up and realized he’d interrupted. Victoria thought she and Billy finished their conversation earlier. He said he wanted to talk to Ashland about ChancComm’s article on Tara. Victoria said this story or whatever else Billy was fishing for could wait. She told him to make an appointment with Ashland’s assistant. Billy asked if Ashland had an opinion on that. Ashland agreed with Victoria, and he was enjoying hearing her tell Billy off, no offense. Billy didn’t take any. He told them to have a good evening and left.

Ashland asked Victoria if she thought Billy really came over about the story. She didn’t know. He said their engagement brought out the protective instincts in a lot of people. She was sorry, but he said it spoke highly of her that people in her life cared so much. She thought people had boundary issues, but she’d rather go with his version. She suggested they forget Billy was ever here and go back to thinking about the romantic palazzo. Over wine, Victoria told Ashland that the theme of the wedding would be the history of the palazzo. She figured that he could spend time with Harrison over the wedding week. Tuscany was close to Milan. He said it sounded perfect – once again she was taking care of him. She said she wanted to, because she loved him. They kissed.

Victor on "Young and The Restless" 8/19/21

At the main house, Nikki said she had a wonderful time with Victoria earlier. Victoria chose a theme for the wedding – the history of the Palazzo. Nikki was surprised when Victoria said she wanted a large splashy wedding. Victor asked if Nikki was surprised or if she disapproved. She didn’t disapprove, she just assumed Victoria would want a small wedding since Ashland was recently divorced and fighting for his life. She announced that Victoria wanted to make a statement, and Victoria even said that the world needed to know she’d met her perfect match. He was a little surprised by it all, but he didn’t blame her for wanting a grand affair after finding love when she least expected it. He thought Ashland was the right man for her. She said Ashland’s treatment might not be successful, so he and Victoria should enjoy this while they could. He told her to help Victoria plan the wedding of her dreams – the sky was the limit. Nick showed up to get their take on Ashland. Victor said he and Nikki were in favor of the union. Nick wished he was too, but he wasn’t. He got an odd feeling from Ashland earlier. Ashland had said something about keeping the past in the past, and it occurred to Nick that they didn’t know anything about Ashland’s history. It was weird, but Nick was with Billy on this. “You bonded with Billy Boy Abbott over this issue?,” Victor asked. Nick said he did his best to downplay his concerns to Billy and discourage him from pursuing his. As long as the kids were okay, this was none of Billy’s business, Nick said. Victor agreed.

Nick on "Young and The Restless" 8/19/21

Nikki thought they should stay away from the topic of Billy. Everyone agreed. Nick said that he was obviously concerned about Victoria getting involved with someone who had a terminal illness, but what else did they really know about Ashland’s past, besides his reputation for being ruthless. With a glance at Victor, Nikki said people could be ruthless in the boardroom and kind at home. Nick got the feeling that there was another shoe with Ashland that was yet to drop. He worried Victoria was stepping into something that she didn’t have control over. He sort of had a sixth sense that there was more to Ashland than they knew. Victor asked what Nick proposed. Nick wanted Victor to use his resources to dig into Ashland’s past. Victor agreed that they’d dig deep and uncover anything that there was to find, and they’d do it before the wedding.

Billy went back to Society. Victor showed up. “You stay out of my daughter’s life,” he said.

Jack and Harrisonyr-08-18-21-1

At the Abbott house, Jack told Harrison about the adventure to Italy that they’d be going on. Harrison was excited becaus he thought they were going to see his mom. Jack gently broke the news that Tara wouldn’t be there, but he promised they’d see her soon. He stated that Daddy Kyle would be there, and Summer found a place where they could get gelato. Harrison asked if he could bring his stuffed fox, Zippy. Jack pulled out a passport that he’d made for Zippy, and he gave it to Harrison.

Chloe on "Young and The Restless" 8/18/21

At Newman Media, Adam took issue with Chloe cc’ing Chelsea into a company memo. Chloe noted that Chelsea was part of her team, but Adam countered that it wasn’t official yet. Chloe thought it was a done deal, though. She reminded Adam that when he offered her the job, he’d promised that her friend would have a safe place to land. ‘Well, semi-safe,” she added. She didn’t think it would be completely safe as long as Adam was still here. He commented on her innate sense of distrust in him, at which she clarified that she’d learned to distrust him after years of experience. He asked where the fashion superstar was. She replied that Sally would be here soon. She noticed he and Sally seemed to hit it off at Crimson Lights. He wanted to get to know the people who worked for him. He liked Sally, but he had an interesting conversation with Phyllis the other day, and she wasn’t a fan. Chloe thought that sounded like a badge of honor. They circled back to the debate on Chelsea. Chloe thought that keeping Chelsea in the loop would only make her more excited about the idea of coming aboard. He thought that was great, but until Chelsea was on payroll, nothing confidential or proprietary was to be included in the emails. Chloe asked Adam if he went home and practiced sounding reasonable. She was waiting for him to crack and reveal his true self. He suggested that this was his true self and those years he acted like a jerk were for her benefit. She forced a smile and left.

Phyllis on "Young and The Restless" 8/18/21

Phyllis was at the Grand Phoenix. She texted Jack to come see her when he was free. Sally stormed up to the counter to report that someone broke into her room and stole her stuff. She was confused when Phyllis seemed unfazed about the theft that took place at her hotel. “That’s not necessarily theft,” Phyllis replied. Gesturing to the suitcases stacked in the lobby, Phyllis explained that if someone took off with those, that would be a robbery. Sally was startled to see that the suitcases were hers. “Isn’t it clear to you? You’re being evicted,” Phyllis announced. She’d had her employees pack Sally’s bags. Sally couldn’t believe this. Phyllis noted that this wasn’t the first time she kicked Sally out. Sally insisted that Phyllis couldn’t do this. “Management reserves the right to refuse service to anyone who bugs the hell out of me,” Phyllis replied. She suggested Sally go upstairs and make sure none of belongings were left behind before the key card stopped working. Jack arrived just in time to see Sally rush into the elevator. He asked if there was a problem, and Phyllis said not anymore. Sally returned, threw the key card on the bar and announced that she was no longer a resident of the overpriced, thin walled dump. She saw Jack and asked if there was anyone less suited to the hospitality business than Phyllis. He asked Sally if she could blame Phyllis. “I can, and I do,” she replied. Sally contended that she and Phyllis had a business arrangement. Jack thought Sally must know this was about more than a hotel room. Sally maintained that Phyllis had it in for her since she got to town. Jack stated that Sally could’ve worked hard and rose to the top on merit, but instead, she got greedy, and it cost Summer and Kyle. “What exactly did it cost Summer? She got her dream job because of me,” Sally replied. Jack sighed that Sally didn’t get it. “If you mess with another member of my family, I will not be so calm and forgiving next time,” he warned. Sally felt that Jack was being cruel. She maintained that they could’ve had something special, but Phyllis torpedoed their relationship out of jealousy. She swore she’d never forget what Phyllis did. Phyllis asked if Sally needed help carrying her bags. Sally snapped that she had it. She told Jack that she was sorry things didn’t work out for them. She grabbed her suitcases and, struggling, she maneuvered them out the door.

Phyllis had enjoyed seeing Sally try to leave, but it didn’t change the fact that Summer was staying in Italy. She felt like she’d wasted her time working to expose Sally and Tara. Jack thought Phyllis accomplished something important and helpful. He put a positive spin on it and said that at least Summer was in Italy by choice. He told her to be happy that Summer had opportunities, and like her mother, she knew how to make the most of them. She commented that he always knew what to say to her, and she loved him for that. She admitted he was right, but this was difficult for her. She knew it must be hard for him to lose Harrison and Kyle. Jack kept telling himself that this wasn’t about him. Phyllis quipped that this was always about her. He told her to think of this as a bold new opportunity for Kyle and Summer to start a new life as new parents. He suggested that the experience might spur them to have a child together. He wanted every holiday at the Abbott house to be crowded with grandchildren, noisy and boisterous like it used to be. She thought that sounded amazing, but her smile gave way to tears over Summer’s decision to stay in Italy. She had half a mind to hitch a ride with him to Milan. He invited her along, but she said it would be impossible, due to work. She’d called him over to ask if he’d deliver something to Summer. He was delighted to help. He owed her big time for saving him from making a major mistake with Sally.

Ashland was at the Abbott house with Harrison, who was playing with a toy plane Ashland had just given him. Jack walked in and smiled at his grandson. Ashland asked Harrison to promise to keep in touch with him and to listen to his Daddy Kyle. Ashland assured Harrison that Kyle and Summer loved him. Jack sent Harrison to the sun room, and he asked Ashland if he was okay. Ashland hated to admit it, but he wasn’t. However, he knew things had to be this way. Jack admired the way Ashland handled things just now, given his reputation. Ashland knew he was known to be rash, self serving and downright mean, but he loved Harrison and he always chose to do what was best for him. Jack said they had that in common. “He’s your grandson, but he’s my boy. Blood matters, but it’s not everything,” Ashland said. Sometimes you had to let go of the one you loved. Jack offered Ashland a spot on the jet, so he could take a little more time with his goodbye. Ashland appreciated the generous offer, but the flight from NY wiped him out, and he couldn’t imagine what a flight back and forth to Europe would do. He figured a clean break with Harrison was for the best. Ashland had said his goodbyes, then Harrison would be off to Italy, and that would be that. “This is not the last time you’ll Harrison. I firmly believe that,” Jack said. Jack admired Ashland, and he liked to think that if he were facing what Ashland was, he’d handle it with the same dignity, grace and courage that Ashland had. Ashland said thanks, then he went to the sun room to say goodbye to Harrison.

Phyllis came to Jack’s to drop off the gift for Summer. It was a framed photo of Phyllis holding her infant daughter. Jack got emotional over how tiny and beautiful Summer was. He told Phyllis it was a beautiful photo of her too. Phyllis thought Summer was lucky to have a future father in law who loved her almost as much as Phyllis did. Phyllis worried for Summer, but she thought Summer would be okay. Jack was sure of that. He said Summer had a bright future ahead of her with the love of her life, and that was something you didn’t take for granted.

Rey on "Young and The Restless" 8/18/21

Michael and Rey were on the Crimson Lights patio discussing Mariah’s case. Rey asked if Ian Ward could be behind the disappearance. While Michael called Ian a sociopath, he added that Ian was in maximum security prison, and his communication with the outside world was strictly monitored. Michael asked how Sharon was holding up, and Rey said she was a wreck. Michael said he kept coming back to the idea that Mariah was just taking some time to herself before the baby was born. Rey thought so too at first, but he said Mariah didn’t pack a bag, her phone was encrypted, and she hadn’t used her credit card or made a single cell phone call. “Mariah is in trouble and she needs our help,” Rey stated. Michael wondered if someone took Mariah because they had it out for Chance, or even Sharon.

Acting on Michael’s suggestion that Mariah’s disappearance was about Sharon, Rey went to Newman Media to question Adam. Rey asked when Adam last had contact with Mariah. Adam said it had been awhile; she was barely on his radar. Rey explained that Mariah had been out of town much longer than expected. “So someone goes missing and your first step is to come question me even though I have no connection to her,” Adam asked. Rey noted that he never said Mariah was missing, bu Adam thought that was the implication. Rey asked again when Adam last saw Mariah. Adam guessed it was right after he donated the kidney to Faith. He still wanted to know why he was being questioned. He assumed Rey wanted to search the office. Rey didn’t want to search, but he felt that Adam was overreacting. He also thought Adam could at least pretend to care about Sharon’s daughter. Adam said he did care, but he still didn’t understand why he was getting questioned. Rey suggested Adam was lashing out at Sharon for not loving him, or maybe Mariah crossed him one too many times, given how much she hated him. Adam accused Rey of grasping at straws. Adam had assumed he and Rey were moving in a better direction after Rey took Chelsea to Minnesota, but he guessed that was incorrect. Adam felt that Rey was dying to pin something on him. “The odds are in my favor that one day I will,” Rey replied. Adam hoped nothing bad happened to Mariah. He also hoped this conversation was over, since had work to do. Rey asked how Chelsea was, and Adam said she seemed fine. Rey was curious how Connor was adjusting, but Adam didn’t have time for casual conversation with Rey. Chloe and Sally walked in, but Adam asked them to come back later.

Chloe and Sally went to Crimson Lights. Sally was curious what was going on with Adam and Det. Rosales. Chloe didn’t know why Rey was there, but whenever she saw Adam with a cop, she assumed he was getting arrested, though that clearly wasn’t the case this time. Chloe wondered why Sally brought her luggage to the office. Sally promised she wasn’t moving in and explained she had to leave her previous residence in a hurry. She wouldn’t miss Phyllis or the hotel, and she was sure her next home would be an upgrade. Chloe assumed it must be hard for Sally to deal with all these setbacks alone. She hoped Sally wasn’t planning to leave. Sally intended to stay; she wasn’t the most popular person in town, but she reasoned that she had as much right to be here as everyone else. Sally wanted to make some people regret ever doubting her.

Gloria and Lauren arrived at Society, and Lauren mentioned that Michael was on his way. Gloria appreciated Lauren taking her out. Lauren liked to take her assistants out a few times a year, so they could take stock of how things were going at the office. Gloria wanted Lauren to buy a bottle of champagne, and Lauren balked because this was a working lunch. Gloria replied that Lauren would need champagne soon, for the good luck toast. Gloria then revealed that this was her last day as Lauren’s assistant. Michael noticed the tension when he arrived. Lauren filled him in. He reminded his mother that she’d begged Lauren for that job. Gloria was grateful for the opportunity, but she had something better lined up. She assumed that she’d get the job as president of JCV.

When Gloria realized that Michael and Lauren didn’t think she should have the job, she called them narrow-minded. Exasperated, Michael asked why Lauren would hand a plum job like that to Gloria. Lauren said it would be quite a jump to go from assistant to running a major fashion division. Gloria countered that Sally did it. Lauren stated that Sally had already been made an executive before that promotion, and she had a lot of recent fashion experience in LA. Gloria said she was a fashion consultant at Jabot, she used to work with Chelsea and Chloe on their line, and she used to be an ‘Extreme Catwalk’ judge. Michael said there was a the little matter of running a business. Gloria said she’d done that several times, successfully. “Like what? Glo-Worm?,” he challenged. Gloria insisted it was a coveted, loved restaurant, but Michael reminded her that it went up in flames. She said that wasn’t her fault. Lauren was about to deny this request, but Gloria interjected to declare that she was talented, hard working, creative, and a natural. Best of all, she wouldn’t spend all her time plotting behind Lauren’s back. “Please. Give me the job. You know I can do it. And I might say you could do worse. But you already have,” Gloria added.

Lauren didn’t think Gloria’s sensibilities were a match for the JCV demographic. Gloria thought that meant she was too old, but Lauren denied saying that. “Of course you’re not. Great way to get yourself sued,” Gloria replied before, assuring Michael that she wasn’t looking for a settlement. She just wanted the opportunity excel. Gloria wanted to implement inclusivity in marketing at JCV – showing all types and all ages. Lauren admitted that was in line with her vision. Gloria felt that she could learn what the young people wanted. Gloria told Lauren to give her some time to show what she had to offer. She thanked them for the meeting, and she left. “What just happened? Did she just accept a job that wasn’t offered? Again?,” Lauren asked. A waiter came by offering champagne, and Lauren ordered a whole bottle.

Michael joked that they had to hope Gloria wasn’t enrolling in high school so she could relate to young people’s fashion needs. Lauren admitted Gloria was entertaining, but Michael said that was hardly the quality Lauren needed in the head of JCV. Lauren said Sally was good at her job, and in time, she would’ve been great. She couldn’t believe she had to fire her. Lauren wished Jack could find someone who was as perfect for him as Michael was for her. Michael that what he and Lauren had was once in a lifetime. She agreed they were one of a kind, but she still hoped everyone could have a big romance.

Gloria on "Young and The Restless" 8/18/21

Gloria ended up at Crimson Lights, where she invited herself to sit at Chloe and Sally’s table. After buttering Sally up, Gloria asked how Sally cultivated her freakish talent for knowing what the young demographic wanted. Sally thought the fact that she was young helped. Chloe said they had to get back to work, but she’d see Gloria this weekend for brunch. Sally and Chloe went to the patio. Sally thought it was nice for Gloria to wish her well. Chloe was sure Gloria had some hidden agenda.

Chloe and Sally went back to Adam’s office. He asked if they knew anything about the luggage by the break room. Sally claimed them, and Adam asked if Phyllis gave her the heave-ho. Sally said yes, but she thought Phyllis did her a favor. She left. Chloe asked what was going on with Rey. Adam brought her up to speed on Mariah. Chloe was surprised and hoped Mariah was okay. Adam figured she’d turn up soon. Chloe left. Adam texted Sharon that Rey told him about Mariah. He asked if there was anything he could do to help.

Lauren and Jack on "Young and The Restless" 8/17/21

Jack and Lauren met at Society, a day earlier than planned. He explained that he rescheduled with her because he was taking Harrison to live with Kyle and Summer tonight. She marveled at how fast things were happening. He guessed that was how it worked with happily-ever-afters. She was sure he must be elated for his son, but heartbroken too. He said Harrison brought so much life and excitement into the house. Letting him go wouldn’t be easy. His son and his grandson would be an ocean away. She understood. He was sure she did – Scott and Fen were out there in the world. She said it was wonderful and terrible – you felt like you’d done your job as a parent when your kids were successful, but the distance… He asked if she had advice. She didn’t know what she’d do without Michael to lean on during birthdays and holidays.

Lauren apologized for encouraging Jack to get involved with Sally after everyone else said she was trouble. He said he let Sally back into his life even after he saw her in action. Lauren couldn’t believe she was duped and that she’d waved off Phyllis’s warnings. Jack said Sally was talented and a great worker, so no one could blame Lauren for giving her the benefit of the doubt. He said it was what Sally did outside the office that became the issue. Lauren thought about how much further Sally could get if she’d stopped sabotaging people. Jack felt it was a real shame. He wondered what the chances were of Sally getting a job of that caliber anytime soon. Lauren and Jack talked business, then she saw that he was wearing his teardrop of love cuff links. He said he had a lot to be hopeful about – he’d have a hand in reuniting Kyle and Harrison. She knew he didn’t believe in the magic of the gemstone, but she believed for him. She said one day soon, he’d have his own happiness.

Nick walked into the hotel and overheard Phyllis ending a call with Summer. Nick felt that Phyllis was calling too often, but Phyllis insisted that Summer wanted to talk to her. She reported that Ashland was allowing Harrison to move to Milan. Nick already heard. He commented that things for Summer and Kyle were falling into place. She said it was because she uncovered what Tara and Sally were doing to their daughter. He thought the technical term for that was meddling, but he respected her stubbornness. She preferred to call that her leadership skills. He said the next few hours would be a tribute to all the things about her that made him crazy. He called it Phyllis Appreciation Day. She loved the idea, but she had a ton of work to do. He said he’d already arranged for the general manager to clear her schedule.

Nick and Phyllis on "Young and The Restless" 8/17/21

Nick knew Phyllis liked to win, so he’d set something up, but he wasn’t going to let her win – she had to earn it. He lead her out of the hotel. They returned after a trip to the batting cages, and she bragged about how she’d bested him. He pointed out that her pitches were going 30 mph slower than his, but she insisted that was fair, since she had a handicap, and he picked the sport. He decided she was right – she could have all the advantages necessary, since it was her day. They kissed, and he told her that next they were going to get massages.

Up in her suite, Phyllis texted Jack that she heard Harrison was moving, and she was sorry he’d have to say goodbye to his grandson. She asked how he was. Nick walked in wearing a blond wig and calling himself Sven, the masseuse. Phyllis played along. He promised to make every muscle in her body scream out in pleasure. They kissed. After the massage, “Sven” poured champagne. Phyllis asked if she could have her boyfriend back, and Nick pulled off the wig. She asked what drove him to give her this amazing day. He said he loved her. He’d been thinking about Summer and Kyle – Summer had to learn a new language and learn to be a mom. Luckily, she had an incredible role model, Nick said. Nick said Summer was taking on this huge challenge just to be with Kyle, and Kyle moved to Milan just to be with Summer. Nick said there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t give up for Phyllis – not anything. He said all he wanted to do was make her happy. They kissed. Phyllis loved Nick so much, but she told him he didn’t have to do the Sven thing. He thought he did after he gave her a hard time for being overprotective of Jack. She said they worried about their exes, and it was okay as long as she and Nick worried about each other, too. She said this was the end of Phyllis Appreciation Day and the beginning of the Nick Festival. She got onto the massage table and pulled him on top of her.

Jack went home and saw Phyllis’ text. He responded that he was great, even though he looked depressed. He heard giggling coming from upstairs, and he smiled. He yelled out to Harrison that Grandpa was home.

Sally was on her way to the Crimson Lights patio when Nikki blocked her path. Sally attempted to walk around Nikki, but Nikki obstructed her route again. Nikki asked if Sally remembered her. Sally recalled meeting Nikki at the Abbott house on Christmas Eve. She knew Nikki was C.O.O of Newman Enterprises and Victor’s wife. “I am also the grandmother of the woman you ran out of town,” Nikki stated. Sally turned toward the other door, but Nikki followed, vowing to make sure Sally knew what happened when she came after Nikki’s family. Sally blamed Tara for targeting Summer, and she claimed her role in it had been blown out of proportion by Phyllis. Normally, Nikki would be skeptical of Phyllis, but this time, she thought Phyllis’ version was accurate, because many people backed it up, including her son, Nick. Sally said Summer had it all, including her dream job that she never would’ve been considered for without Sally. Nikki countered that if Sally didn’t interfere, Summer would be in Genoa City with her family. Sally was sure that Nikki wouldn’t want Summer to miss out on this opportunity. “You don’t know me at all. Don’t make assumptions about what I want,” Nikki snapped. Sally spoke about Nikki’s business success and assumed she’d be happy that Summer was following in her footsteps. Sally’s smooth talking gave Nikki even more reason to believe what she’d heard about Sally. Sally admitted most of it might be true, but she said that she had nothing against Summer. Nikki didn’t want to hear about Sally coming after anyone else in her family. Sally nodded. Nikki added that Victor wasn’t the only one who knew how to take things into his own hands.

Victoria on "Young and The Restless" 8/17/21

Victoria went to Newman Media and asked to see the man in charge. Adam said that was him, but Victoria said that was their father. Adam clarified that Victor was more like an advisor, and Victoria replied that Adam meant babysitter. Adam said maybe that was Victor’s role with Victoria at Newman Enterprises but things worked differently here. Victoria replied that Victor always let Adam get away with murder. She didn’t think Newman Media was doing a good job promoting their launch – even their biggest board member, Ashland, hadn’t heard a word. Adam said when they did launch, no one would be able to miss it. He asked why she cared – surely she didn’t see them as competition to the behemoth that was Newman-Locke. She called him an underdog with a slingshot. “We all know who won that battle,” he quipped.

Victoria needed to know about dates, because she had an important one lined up. Adam asked if it was her wedding, and wondered if he was actually invited. She wanted to make sure Victor wouldn’t have a conflict. He congratulated her and apologized for jumping to conclusions. He was sure she’d understand why he’d done that though, since she was the last member of their family to see him as a monster. She doubted she was the only Newman who saw him as he really was. She was also surprised he gave so much thought to her and her opinion of him. It made her wonder if he was the one worried about competition. He said he had nothing to fear. She said that between Newman/Locke and ChancComm, his fledgling company didn’t have a prayer. She predicted he’d let Victor down again. Victor walked in and told Victoria that was enough.

Victor on "Young and The Restless" 8/17/21

Victor told his kids that the hostility ended now. Adam said Victoria was the one who blew in here full of spite and malice, but he was used to it, so he took it in stride. Victoria said she’d have to give a damn about Adam to despise him, and since her life was going so well, she didn’t have the energy to detest him. Adam felt the power Victor gave Victoria went to her head. She contended that she’d earned everything she had, but he argued that she’d been groomed since birth to be an executive at Newman Enterprises. Adam said he built a career before he even knew he was Victor’s son. Victor put a stop to the argument. Adam congratulated Victoria and promised to buy her a wedding gift, since he was sure his invitation would be lost in the mail. Victor said Adam had better get invited. He saw this as a chance to unite the family. Adam said he was doing his part. He wished Victoria a nice day and left. Victor asked what it would take for the two for them to stop arguing.

Victor asked if Victoria came here to provoke her brother. Victoria actually came to say that she and Ashland decided to get married on October 15th. Victor thought that was soon, but Victoria said that they didn’t know how much time Ashland would have. She was keeping a positive outlook and focusing on the wedding. She said she and Ashland would love to be married at the family palazzo. “In Italy,” Victor noted. Victoria always loved Italy, and Harrison would be living there, since Ashland made the tough decision to let his son go. She assumed he was going to ask why she was getting married when Ashland was making end of life decisions. That wasn’t what Victor wanted to say. He thought a wedding at his Tuscan villa in October sounded perfect.

Victoria thanked her father and said she and Nikki were going to plan the wedding now. He stopped her from leaving and said he didn’t like the way they left things after their talk the other day. She asked if he realized he took it too far when he asked Ashland if he was faking his cancer. He said he wouldn’t do anything to undermine her. He wanted her to be happy. Being a father of a girl who’d inherited a lot of his qualities was a little complicated, and he was still trying to figure out aspects of their dynamic. She understood, because she was still trying to figure out aspects of being his daughter. She’d always love and respect him, even if he infuriated her. He wanted her to go back to the ranch and plan the wedding of her dreams. He told her to make sure she had a long aisle, because he was going to walk her down it, and he was going to cherish every step.

Nikki on "Young and The Restless" 8/17/21

Victoria went to the ranch and told Nikki her plans. Nikki hoped Victoria understood Victor was coming from a place of love. Victoria knew. They’d just had a nice talk. She knew things between her and Victor would always run hot and cold, but she hoped the detente lasted because she had a lot on her plate right now. Nikki asked how Ashland’s treatments were going. Victoria said it was too soon to tell. She hoped it worked, but it was out of her control. She said they should focus on planning the most incredible wedding. Nikki and Victoria settled on white roses and peonies for the wedding. Victoria didn’t have any ideas for music, so Nikki said she’d make a list. Victoria wanted a gigantic wedding with musicians, gorgeous lighting and a five course meal. She wanted this to be a night she’d remember the rest of her life. Nikki was surprised, as she’d assumed Victoria would want something intimate. Victoria wanted a big group that was glamorous and luxurious. She was tired of doing things low key, and she wanted to go all out. “I want the world to know in the most extravagant way that Victoria Newman has finally met her match,” she said.

Sally and Adam collided into each other as they were jogging through the park. She commented on the great first impression she was making on her new boss. He said it was okay – she wasn’t hired on her athletic ability. She wondered if he’d done a background check to find out what her strengths and weaknesses were. He said he’d talked to his friend Jack. Jack wasn’t as willing to weigh in as Adam assumed he’d be. Sally thought that Jack didn’t want to wreck her future. Adam said Phyllis couldn’t say enough, though. Sally said she and Phyllis had a hate-hate relationship. Adam said that summed up nearly all of Phyllis’s entanglements, though most people didn’t put it that bluntly. Sally saw no sense pretending – Phyllis blew up her life and took pleasure in it. Adam thought that was kind of the pot calling the kettle black. Sally admitted she may have done some things that crossed the line, but she never screwed anyone over for good reason. Adam wanted to hear about Sally’s past. Sally figured Adam would hear about it anyway, so she said she’d give him all the lurid details of how she came from JCV to Newman Media. She said if he thought they were too scandalous, he could fire her.

Sally told Adam the whole story, and she was surprised that he wasn’t horrified. She thought Summer was his niece. He said she was, but they weren’t close. Sally thought that was good. “It’s a good thing that Summer and I have a less than great relationship?,” he asked. Sally just meant that all the other Newmans acted like it was a tragedy that Summer left for the job of a lifetime. Nikki just let her have it. Adam said Nikki wasn’t a fan of his either. Adam noted that Sally and Tara got what they wanted for awhile, then they suffered the consequences. Sally said Phyllis broke a lot of rules coming after them, and she got away with it. Adam admitted he had a past of his own he was trying to play down, so he’d judge Sally on her work and nothing else. She said maybe Genoa City wasn’t as filled with as many hypocrites as she thought. He said he wouldn’t go that far. She suggested they do the rest of their run together. He said he was doing a long rough path. She took that as a challenge. “Race you,” she said. She took off, and he ran after her.

Chloe was on Crimson Lights’ patio. She overheard Adam and Sally talking inside. She asked if he regretted letting Chloe hire her. He said he trusted Chloe’s instincts, but he said not to tell Chloe that. Sally promised she wouldn’t. Sally promised to do great things for the fashion platform. Adam asked how Sally was going to set Newman Media apart. She shared her strategy for keeping them on the cutting edge, and he was pleased with it. She promised she wouldn’t let him down. He said it would’ve been easier for her to leave town, but she didn’t. She got the feeling that he also had something to prove. “Don’t we all?,” he asked. Chloe watched intently as Adam and Sally “toasted” to his statement by clinking his cup against her straw. Adam left, and Sally looked up and spotted Chloe.

Sally came out to the patio to explain that she and Adam just ran into each other. She swore she wasn’t trying to score points with the boss. Chloe didn’t mind Sally scoring points with Adam. Sally asked why Chloe looked so concerned then. Chloe said Adam was a sucking vortex of chaos and destruction. Sally thought he seemed friendly. Chloe recommended that Sally read “The Making of a Monster” on ChancComm’s site, or just ask people around town. She was sure everyone would back up what she was saying. Sally said she’d be more careful in the future.

Victoria: What’s up?

Billy: Just grabbing a coffee on my way to work. Picked up the kids at camp and dropped them off at home.

Victoria: Did they have fun today?

Billy: I would say they had fun. Johnny learned how to throw a curve ball, and Katie created a masterpiece for the fridge.

Billy: Thought you could use a treat this afternoon.

Lily: Ah. You trying to butter me up or something?

Billy: Actually, I did run into Victoria at Crimson Lights. We had an interesting chat.

Lily: Oh, okay. That could be code for a lot of things.

Billy: Yeah. Well, you know, we were standing there, and — I’m sorry. Do you want me to skip the gory details?

Lily: No! No. I want to hear everything. I love hearing you ruminate about your ex.

Billy: Okay, I’m gonna shut up now.

Lily: Oh, stop. I’m kidding.

Ashland: Thank you for meeting with me, jack.

Jack: I want to assure you, i have harrison’s best interest at heart always, as does kyle. We both love that little boy very much —

Ashland: I’ve thought long and hard about everyone’s position. Come to a decision about harrison’s future. Kyle has tried phoning me multiple times, but we have not been able to connect.

Jack: Yeah, the seven-hour time difference with milan is a challenge.

Ashland: Yeah, yeah, I’m sure that’s part of it. Why don’t you see if you can call him now so I can tell you both what I’ve decided is the best way forward for my son?

Billy: Ah, you again.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ]

[ Sighs ] So, did they mention the big news that I delivered this morning during my visit?

Billy: Big news? Right, your wedding to ashland.

Victoria: Yes.

Billy: Yeah.

Victoria: I mean, I assume that’s why you made the effort to pick them up instead of sending hannah.

Billy: They mentioned it, yeah, briefly.

Victoria: What did they say?

Billy: Well, katie was wondering if she was gonna be able to be a flower girl, and johnny was hoping that the wedding cake would be chocolate.

Victoria: Okay, so here I am, worried that they’re gonna be upset about this big change in their life, and all they care about is the ceremony.

Billy: I mean, I do think johnny’s onto something, ’cause there’s gonna be high expectations for a newman-locke wedding, and that cake better be good. And just a tip…

Victoria: Yes?

Billy: …Five-layer cake, fancy, you know, icing — they usually taste like cardboard.

Victoria: I’ll keep that in mind.

Billy: Look, they’re kids, okay? They’re in their own world. They’re gonna ask questions, and when they do, we’ll handle it together like we always do.

Victoria: Thank you for that.

Billy: How was ashland’s first treatment?

Victoria: Well, you know, he had some side effects, but nothing unexpected. Thank you for asking.

Billy: I know you were relieved that he decided to get chemo.

Victoria: Yes, he has a whole new outlook on life. Seems much more positive. And I’m hopeful. I think that this will give him more time, which means we’ll have more time together.

Billy: A lot of big things going on in your life. Giant merger with locke communications group, falling in love with the man that built it, and then planning a wedding with him all in a short amount of time.

Victoria: You make it sound like I should be worried about those things.

[ Knock on door ]

Devon: Knock-knock.

Lily: Hey.

Devon: Hey.

Lily: Come on in.

Devon: Sure you’re not too busy?

Lily: Uh, no. Uh, no, no. Actually, I could use a break. So, uh, can I get you anything? Water? Coffee?

Devon: Nah, I’m fine. Thank you.

Lily: What’s, uh — what’s going on? You seem a little upset.

Devon: [ Sighs ] Yeah. I was — I was on my way to abby’s, and the closer I got, the more frustrated I was getting. So I figured I probably wasn’t in a good headspace to visit anybody. And I stopped off here, and now I’m bugging you on your workday. I’m sorry.

Lily: No, you’re not bugging me. This is what I’m here for, to talk things out, you know, get some clarity. So what’s going on? Lay it on me.

Jack: I just texted kyle, asked if he was available for a video call. He is very eager to hear what you have to say, as am I.

Ashland: Well, it’ll be good to have this settled.

[ Clicks tongue ]

Jack: There are a lot of moving parts.

Ashland: Tara’s arrest and kyle’s leaving the country has thrown everything into chaos.

Jack: I-I know those were unexpected.

Ashland: There’s no easy answer here, jack, no one solution that’ll satisfy everyone. We can’t look at this as some cut-and-dried business deal where we simply do what we need to do to get what we want. It isn’t fair. And neither is life, for that matter, as I’ve been so constantly reminded of recently. But this is not about me. A boy’s future and well-being are at stake here.

[ Ringing ]

Jack: That would be kyle. Hi, son. Thank you for being available so quickly.

Kyle: No problem. Is ashland there?

Ashland: I am.

Kyle: Ashland, hi. How are you?

Ashland: I’ve been better.

Kyle: What have you decided about harrison, his living arrangements?

Lily: So mariah’s still out of town?

Devon: Oh, mariah is completely off the radar.

Lily: Even at jabot?

Devon: Even at jabot. She hasn’t called anybody at her job. And jack said that if she doesn’t come back soon, he’s gonna be forced to find a new director of marketing.

Lily: Wow. Has she been in contact with anyone?

Devon: Just through vague texts saying she needs more time.

Lily: Well, maybe she’s having second thoughts about being the surrogate.

Devon: She didn’t come out and say that, but you can kind of infer it from the messages she’s been sending tessa and abby, saying to basically back off and stop pressuring her.

Lily: That doesn’t even sound like mariah.

Devon: Oh, I know it doesn’t sound like her, which is why I’m worried. This is — this couldn’t be farther from her character, to take on a responsibility that’s this big, like carrying someone’s child, and just vanish without saying anything. Rey even thinks it’s time to start investigating.

Lily: Wait, it’s that serious where the police are involved?

Devon: Yes. A couple weeks ago, she sent abby a text promising to be back in town by her next check-up. The day the check-up comes, she sends a message saying, “I can’t make it. I’m not ready to face the doctors.”

Lily: Well, I mean, maybe she’s feeling overwhelmed.

Devon: I mean, that’s possible. I know that mariah has an independent streak, and she likes to take care of herself, but something doesn’t feel right to me. And even tessa agrees. I mean, she knows her better than anybody else, and she can’t believe that mariah would just leave town and not tell her anything.

Lily: Well, has rey found anything out?

Devon: Yeah. I spoke to sharon before I got here. She said that they can’t trace mariah’s cellphone because something is scrambling the signal.

Lily: Okay, that’s weird.

Devon: And she hasn’t used any credit cards, debit cards, or made any phone calls in weeks. She’s only sent these text messages.

Lily: [ Sighs ] How’s abby doing?

Devon: She’s — she’s doing amazing, considering her husband isn’t here and has no idea what the hell’s going on about anything. You know, she’s doing her best to stay confident and to stay positive, and she says that she understands that chance has this type of job. It’s unpredictable, and, you know, she knows the work’s important.

Lily: I mean, I don’t know. That sounds a little too understanding.

Devon: Yeah, I know. I’d say so, too, ’cause you can say all those things, which she does, but you can tell that it’s killing her. This whole thing has been such an ordeal that, with chance being gone, she’s basically had to deal with it completely alone.

Lily: Yeah, but she’s not completely alone. I mean, she has friends and family around her to love and support her, including you. Unless are — are you having second thoughts about getting involved?

Victoria: You think I’m making a mistake marrying ashland, don’t you?

Billy: I’ve voiced my concerns, you heard them, and now I’m just doing my best to try and be supportive.

Victoria: Yes, billy, you’re saying all the right words, but I know you. So why don’t you just say what’s on your mind?

Billy: Okay. I think maybe, deep down, you are worried that you’re making a mistake and you’re using me to voice your fears.

Victoria: Don’t be absurd. I don’t have all the worries and doubts that you’ve cooked up in your frenzied imagination.

Billy: Well, then, I guess we’re both jumping to conclusions, then.

Ashland: Once tara admitted you’d had an affair, I was furious with both of you. But one good thing came out of all that drama. I learned what kind of woman that tara truly was, what ugliness she was capable of. Threatening to take away your child unless your fiancée broke up with you and moved abroad, i mean, for tara, that is business as usual. Smooth landing for summer, though. She ended up with a dream job.

Kyle: After what tara and sally put us through —

Jack: I hope you’re not planning on punishing kyle for being there to support the woman he loves and her career in a job you helped line up for her.

Kyle: It doesn’t mean I love harrison any less.

Ashland: Uh, I don’t know if jack has told you, uh, that i started treatments today. It could extend my life, which is what I’m hoping for. But if the treatments have no effect, I could be dead in a matter of months, and the thought of that has made me more determined to spend what time i have left with harrison, knowing that you will be able to spend all the time in the world with him once I’m gone.

Kyle: I can see where you’re going with this.

Ashland: Alright, don’t — don’t be too sure. The fact that I am dying is double-edged. Being with harrison and watching him grow up for the little time that I have is only possible if I survive the treatments and the cancer goes into remission.

Jack: How did things go this morning?

Ashland: The chemo went just fine, but I’ve been feeling like crap ever since.

Kyle: Sorry.

Ashland: Well, I’m told it could get worse, much worse, and that day in the park, when I had the shortness of breath, and i saw the look in harrison’s eyes, the kid was terrified. And I can’t stand the idea of putting him through what would happen if — when things got really bad.

Jack: Harrison is always welcome to stay here, where he’s comfortable, where he has a routine, and I could arrange visitation the both of you agree upon.

Ashland: It’s a possibility i have considered, but I rejected it.

[ Sighs ] With harrison’s mom gone, he is going to need a father, a full-time parent, which I am unable to do at this point. So I’ve decided that he should come and live with you in italy. Get more joy out of your shower

Ashland: Harrison will go to live with you and summer in milan, and, between treatments, I will come and visit if I am feeling strong enough. Or perhaps we can meet in between in new york. This way, I could visit with harrison in the place where he feels safe and knows best. That might be the easiest solution for all of us.

Kyle: Yes, yes, that’s an excellent plan.

Jack: I want you to know i appreciate your ability and willingness to see this from all angles.

Ashland: I only have two stipulations going forward with this.

Kyle: Name them.

Ashland: First, I want you to keep me alive in harrison’s mind. I’ll make video calls and send letters and gifts, but I want the freedom to visit anytime my health allows.

Kyle: Done. I’ll do everything I can to keep you a strong presence in harrison’s life because that’s what’s best for him, knowing he has lots of people who love him, even if he can’t see them every day.

Ashland: Secondly, whatever tara has done, she’s still his mother, and he adores her. She’ll have to be allowed to see him. That said, there will be strict protocols in place.

Kyle: Such as?

Ashland: Tara’s out on bail. Could be months before her trial, but she cannot leave the state of new york. And if and when you come to visit in new york and meet me there, I want to make sure there are rules in place for when tara can see him — strictly supervised, of course.

Jack: I understand. That makes all the sense in the world to me.

Kyle: I can set my own anger with her aside to do what you’re asking. My more immediate concern is for harrison, how he’s going to feel when he learns his mom has been arrested. Who’s handling that? What’s he gonna be told?

Ashland: As tough as it may be, I do think we need to tell him the truth, a version that he can grasp, something along the lines of, “mommy’s on a long-term timeout for what she’s done. Mommy broke the law. Mommy’s got to pay for the consequences of her actions.” Something like that.

Jack: Forgive me, perhaps we could couch that in a way that’s a little less harsh.

Ashland: Lying to the boy now, when eventually he will realize what really happened, could be worse. As young as harrison is, he’s a very smart boy. He’ll know that there are restrictions being put on his mommy when he and she visit together. Any deception will be internalized as to why, even though he can’t articulate it. These are the kind of things that create distance and mistrust in a child.

Kyle: I agree. 100%.

Jack: Yeah, I-I see your point now.

Ashland: Okay, then it’s settled.

Kyle: I promise to be the best father I can to harrison. I’ll continue to work with you so that he knows he’ll always be loved and taken care of and protected. ‘Cause to me, that’s the most important thing.

Devon: I do not regret stepping up for abby and chance one bit, okay? They went through hell after they got married, and they deserve to be able to start a family. So I was happy to be able to help them, and I still am.

Lily: Okay, then why did you feel the need to talk things out with me before you went to go see abby?

Devon: Because I was — I was upset — i am upset that I know chance is a good guy. Like, I know that he’s that. I know he has his honorable job where he’s saving people’s lives and he’s a hero and all that. I get it. But, at the same time, he made a commitment to start a family with my best friend and, you know, told her to move forward with the surrogacy and told her that he’s gonna be home soon. He chose to take the case after they already decided to let mariah go ahead and carry the baby. So you know that you’re going into this situation with your brand-new wife. You know you have this insanely unpredictable job. It feels like he’s choosing his work over the responsibility to his family. Is now a good time for a flare-up?

Lily: Okay, please tell me that you have not breathed a word of this to abby or even hinted at how you feel.

Devon: No, I know this stays between us. That’s why I’m telling you. I wouldn’t say that to her.

Lily: Okay, good, ’cause i think she has enough to deal with than having to listen to people criticize her husband for the choices that he’s made.

Devon: I understand that. I know better. I just — I get frustrated when I see how much it affects her. She stopped making those videos for chance just ’cause she’s worried that he’s gonna catch on to how distraught she is.

Lily: Aw, that’s sad.

Devon: I know it’s sad. Her husband isn’t even here, and she feels like she has to hide her feelings from him. It’s not okay.

Lily: Well, like you said, she knew was she was getting into when she married him.

Devon: No, you’re right. And, listen, I’m — I’m more upset at the situation than I am at chance. I know he’s doing everything he can right now. He doesn’t even know what’s going on with mariah.

Lily: Yeah, and, look, i think it’s really important that abby have faith in her husband right now, especially if she’s feeling abandoned ’cause I think it’ll make it even harder for her to understand that maybe mariah just needs some space right now, which I am really hoping that’s all that this is.

Devon: Yeah, I hope you’re right.

Lily: And chance would be here if he could, you know? And I’m just gonna have good thoughts that mariah will come home when she’s ready, and hopefully abby will, too. And in the meantime, just keep being the amazing friend that you are ’cause this baby will need you in his support unit when he arrives.

Devon: I just wish there was more I could do.

Victoria: Just listen to us, trying to psychoanalyze each other, like the amateurs that we are.

Billy: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, we’re funny, aren’t we? Although you know what? Maybe there’s something there to examine.

Victoria: Oh. Well, by all means, please enlighten me.

Billy: Well, I’m talking about us as exes. Maybe we’ve finally found that sweet spot.

Victoria: Meaning?

Billy: Meaning we have a lot of history. And we’ve both moved on. And we’re both happy with our lives, so maybe we are able to challenge each other and hold each other accountable in a way that’s not —

Victoria: Not toxic.

Billy: Maybe even healthy. Look, nobody knows each other like we do. And I’m hoping that we can keep it real, say it like it is, be honest with each other, and still be aware that whatever we say to each other is taken in the spirit in which it was meant.

Victoria: Yeah, you know, i think that the technical term for that is called being friends.

[ Both chuckle ] But all kidding aside, I hope you’re right. I hope that you and I really have gotten to that place.

Billy: Me too.

Ashland: One final request. I would like to be the one to explain this to harrison. I don’t want him to think that I’m abandoning him.

Kyle: By all means.

Jack: He is upstairs right now in his room with the nanny doing some drawing.

Ashland: I’ll go talk to him then.

Kyle: Wow. [ Chuckles ]

Jack: Wow, indeed. Boy, that wasn’t easy for him. Given his volatile temperament, I didn’t know what to expect.

Kyle: Neither did I. I’m blown away. I refused to let myself hope that he could put everything else aside and allow harrison to come live with me, and now that he has…dad, I can’t wait to see my son.

Jack: So, how are you feeling about everything else? You’ve made some pretty big decisions — moving to italy, putting things back together with summer. Now you’re gonna add to that being a full-time father.

Kyle: I made the right decision, no doubt, even though it’s difficult being away from all of you. Plus — let’s be honest — even as much as summer enjoys harrison, it’s gonna be an adjustment for her.

Jack: I’m confident you’ll both work your way through it.

Kyle: How are you feeling about all of this?

Jack: To be honest, it’s — it’s bittersweet. I mean, we’ll work out the stuff about you doing jabot work in milan, but on a personal level, I already miss you like crazy.

Kyle: And you’ll miss harrison like crazy.

[ Chuckles ]

Jack: This is what’s best for him. I will cope.

Kyle: Summer and I needed a fresh start. And you’ll see us before long. I want you to be the one to bring harrison to milan.

Jack: There’s nothing I would like better. Ok everyone, our mission is to provide complete,

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Ashland: [ Exhales heavily ]

Jack: How did it go with harrison?

Ashland: Well, it was harder for me than it was for him. He seemed to take it all in stride.

Jack: Well, I’m glad to hear that, for his sake.

Ashland: Some kids are able to view change as adventure. I was like that.

[ Chuckles ] Adaptable. You know, it really puts my mind and my heart at ease knowing that he is in your and your family’s capable hands.

Jack: Well, thank you. I want you to know I — i realize what a difficult half a year this has been for you. Finding out about the paternity, tara’s arrest, the divorce, now your illness. Whatever brings you happiness, I’d say that’s a good thing.

Ashland: Victoria does that. She is the bring light that has pulled me out of the darkness and gloom of this awful year, someone who has brought me more joy and happiness than I ever thought possible.

Jack: I’ve known victoria all her life. She’s a keeper. Hold on tight.

Ashland: Oh, trust me. I intend to.

Victoria: So, let me know when the org chart is finalized, and you can run it past me. Then we’ll set up a meeting. Okay. Super, dave. Great.

Devon: Victoria.

Victoria: Well, hello, stranger.

Devon: How you doing?

Victoria: Good. It’s going well. You know, I’ve just been so busy with the details of the merger and, you know, all of my personal stuff, I really haven’t had a chance to keep up with anyone.

Devon: Oh, don’t worry about it. It’s okay. It’s all good.

Victoria: You know, seeing you reminds me that I haven’t checked in with abby about the baby in a while.

Devon: I’m sure your sister understand you have a lot on your plate these days, so it’s okay.

Victoria: Any word about chance and when he might be home?

Devon: Not a word.

Victoria: Oh, gosh, that’s got to be tough on her. He’s been gone so long. I, um — I definitely need to call her and check in.

Devon: She would really appreciate if you did that, you know. I actually just got back from visiting with lily, and it reminded me how nice it is to have a sister that you can talk to, you know?

Victoria: I have to tell you, she has been such a life-saver to me.

Devon: Lily has?

Victoria: Yeah. I mean, she’s just stepped up in a major way, you know, taking on a larger role with the kids while I focus on ashland and his medical issues. I’m just really grateful to her and billy.

Devon: Well, that’s very kind of you to say that. I know she loves those kids, too, so I’m sure she doesn’t mind having them around.

Victoria: Oh, still. I mean, any other woman in her shoes wouldn’t be so accommodating. It speaks to the kind of person that she is and the great place that she and billy are in.

Lily: Mmm.

Billy: [ Chuckles ]

Lily: I see you remembered the extra shot this time.

Billy: Okay, I’m gonna up now.

Lily: Oh, stop. I’m kidding.

Billy: No, it’s — it was interesting. We were — we were standing there talking, and then it kind of just dawned on me, some of the things that we were saying to each other. They were still, you know, a little bit brutal, but they were honest, and we were open. And the conversation didn’t spiral into something weird or into some kind of argument. Or maybe we were just projecting our own insecurities on each other. I don’t know.

Lily: Wow. That’s some professional-grade analysis.

Billy: Yeah, victoria made the same joke, something about us being shrinks? Something like that.

Lily: Ah, great minds.

Billy: Is my time up, or can I keep going?

Lily: No, I mean, look, I’ll be honest. It is asking a lot for me to always help you figure out where things stand with her.

Billy: I understand that. I do. But I think this is a good thing. I mean, we’re working towards some kind of healthy equilibrium.

Lily: Mm. You know what I think?

Billy: Tell me.

Lily: I think that you and victoria kind of like having things unresolved between you two. Helps you feed off the competitive vibe.

Billy: You know what? There might be something to that. Age-related macular degeneration may lead to severe vision loss,

Jack: What time will you have the jet ready for the trip to milan? Yeah. Two passengers. Great. I will see you then.

Devon: Hey, jack.

Jack: Hey! How are you?

Devon: Good, man. Sounds like someone’s taking a trip.

Jack: Yes, I am, actually tonight.

Devon: Taking the red eye to italy. Must be a story there.

Jack: Oh, it is the most amazing story. Kyle and summer are back together.

Devon: Really? Good for them.

Jack: Long story short, kyle has decided to join summer in milan permanently.

Devon: Kyle’s gonna move to europe?

Jack: He is starting a whole new life there, and he wanted his young son, harrison, to be part of that new life. But it hinged on ashland locke and just how contentious he wanted to make things. The outcome was not what we expected.

Devon: Wow, you guys thought locke would put up roadblocks?

Jack: Say what you will about the man’s business tactics. He truly loves that little boy. Kyle and I were all but certain he would insist that the child live with him, but to our surprise and great delight, he agreed with us. The best thing for harrison would be to live with kyle in milan. That way, he’d have a full-time father while ashland fights his cancer.

Devon: Wow. That’s a — it’s a huge sacrifice. From what I hear, the guy is in pretty bad shape.

Jack: He did not want to traumatize harrison if his treatment failed, if things started to go south, so he put his own desires aside and did what was best for the boy.

Devon: That’s what you do when you’re a good parent — you look at the big picture and you put your kid’s needs first. I wish somebody I knew understood that.

Jack: Who are we talking about now?

[ Keys jangle, clatter ]

Victoria: Hey. How did it go at the abbott’s?

Ashland: Well, it’s done. Jack got kyle on the phone, and, uh, they agreed to my terms. And then I talked to harrison.

Victoria: How did he react when you told him about going to live in italy?

Ashland: Well, he wanted to know if he was still gonna be able to see me, and I said… I’d visit as often as I could, you know, whenever I’m feeling strong enough. It’s a hell of a thing to try and explain to a 3-year-old.

Victoria: Gosh, that must have been one of the most selfless and hardest things you’ve ever had to do.

Ashland: It’s up there.

Victoria: I have never respected you more than I do right now.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] Well, I had to go with what i knew in my heart was best for harrison, then take my ego out of the equation.

Victoria: It says a lot about who you are that you were able to do it — and with such grace.

Ashland: You know, I’m looking at my life these days from a different perspective, thanks to you.

Victoria: No, you — you keep trying to give me the credit, but you’re the one doing all the work.

Ashland: You know, you need to learn to take a compliment.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] You’ve been thrown so many curves, things that would make most people angry and bitter. And you just — you look at it as a growing experience. I’m in awe of that.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: I have known a lot of people who thought that they could change, and when the chips were down, they couldn’t or they wouldn’T. But you’ve redefined your life. You made that choice, and I — I — I love you for that.

Billy: [ Clicks tongue ] You might be onto something here. Okay, hear me out, alright? A series of online essays where we talk about the insanity and/or maturity of past relationships.

Lily: Wait. What?

Billy: Think about this — a fascinating conversation with one of our journalists and a slew of celebrities, and they talk about their current connections to their past lovers.

Lily: Well, that’s been done before.

Billy: Okay, then we —

[ Sighs ] We zoom in a little bit. We make it about genoa city how do people do it here? How do you constantly run into people from your past and still find a way to communicate? I mean, it’s a small town. And we can call it “the ghosts of love.” Right? And forget the journalist. We need somebody that people are gonna really listen to and open up to and someone that’s gonna put them at ease, and I know the perfect person for that — you. You would be fantastic at this.

Lily: Mm. Yeah, I mean, it’s a decent idea, but, man, oh, man, this has got to be one of the best dodges I have ever seen you pull.

Billy: Well, that is my superpower.

Lily: Oh, no, no, I’m not speaking hypothetically. I really think that, secretly, you and victoria don’t want to resolve your issues.

Billy: Okay. And I think that maybe you are still looking for that conflict because you are afraid of a real commitment.

Lily: A real commitment? Are you kidding me? I have done nothing but show how committed I am. So, someone is in denial here, and it is not me.

Billy: [ Sighs ] Diy means having the right tools.

Devon: You know, I just — I’ve been thinking a lot about chance and this never-ending case he seems to be on and just about how much he’s missed being away.

Jack: Yeah, I know. He’s not the only one. Listen, no one at jabot has heard from mariah. Have you or anyone else?

Devon: Just more texts that don’t tell us where she is or when she’s coming home.

Jack: Poor abby. I don’t know how she’s holding it all together.

Devon: She’s strong, but we’re all being there for her. Listen, I don’t want to take up any more of your time. I know you have a big flight to get ready for.

Jack: Yeah, traveling with a toddler does have its challenges.

Devon: I can imagine. But it is very cool how you get to spend this time with your grandson, you know? It’s like you guys are embarking on an adventure together.

Jack: Yeah. Yeah, it does feel like an adventure. Listen, great seeing you.

Devon: You too, sir.

Jack: I’ll talk to you soon.

Devon: Safe travels. Hey. It’s devon. I know that you’re busy, so I’m gonna get right to it. I need a favor, um, and it’s something that’s pretty important.

Billy: Actually, I think you’re right.

Lily: About you being in denial?

Billy: I love you, okay? I do. You are my future. There’s no one else.

Lily: But you just said that —

Billy: I said that I am not in denial about my relationship with victoria. She is the mother of my children. I get to have an opinion about the choices that she makes in her life, especially if it can affect my kids.

Lily: I know, but do you really expect me to believe this is only out of concern for your children?

Billy: Not only, no.

Ashland: I have evolved as a human being in more ways than I — I thought possible. And whether or not you choose to acknowledge it, it is due to your influence.

Victoria: Ashland —

Ashland: I look at my life in such a different way now. First and foremost, I want to make the most out of every day that I have left.

Victoria: And I’m gonna be right there, right by your side, cheering you on.

Ashland: Well, I expect you to do more than just cheer.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Okay, fine. What is my first assignment?

Ashland: I need you to help me pick a date out for our wedding.

Billy: I have been trying very hard to convince myself that victoria is doing the right thing by marrying ashland. You know, they have a lot in common. They’re alike. She’s fully aware of what she’s getting herself into, but the truth is, that would be me living in denial.

Lily: Because…?

Billy: Because, as hard as i try to make myself believe that all those things are true, it is me ignoring every instinct i have.

Ashland: I want to be past the first round of chemo when it happens, but not so far out in case the treatments aren’t successful.

Victoria: They will be. I’m sure of it.

Ashland: Well, then it’ll give us one more thing to celebrate once we are officially husband and wife.

Billy: Victoria marrying ashland — it’s a mistake. It’s maybe the biggest mistake victoria will ever make in her life.

Recap written by Christine

Ashland told Kyle and Jack that he was allowing Harrison to move to Milan. The stipulation was that Ashland be allowed to visit whenever he wanted. Ashland also wanted Harrison to have supervised visits with Tara, who was out on bail, but required to remain in NY until the trial was over. Kyle agreed to bring Harrison to NY to meet Ashland and Tara and agreed that Ashland could come visit in Milan. Kyle asked Jack to bring Harrison to Milan tonight, and he agreed. Billy and Victoria talked about her wedding. They believed they’d gotten to the place, as exes, where they could be honest with each other and challenge each other in a healthy way. Devon told Lily that the police were investigating Mariah’s disappearance. Devon confided that he felt like Chance was placing his job over his responsibility to his family. Devon and Victoria chatted about Lily and Abby. Victoria was grateful Lily stepped up and took on a larger role with Victoria’s kids. Victoria decided she should call Abby.

Lily theorized to Billy that he and Victoria liked having things unresolved between them. Billy suggested that ChancComm do a series of articles about how the people of Genoa City handled living in a town full of their exes. He thought Lily should be the one to interview people for it. When Lily reiterated that Billy and Victoria didn’t want to resolve their issues, Billy suggested that Lily was saying this because she was afraid of commitment. She denied this. Billy assured Lily that he loved her. Billy’s gut told him that if Victoria married Ashland, she’d be making the biggest mistake of her life. Jack and Devon talked about Ashland, Kyle, Harrison and parenthood. Devon vented about Chance and let Jack know that no one heard from Mariah yet. Devon called someone to ask for a favor. Victoria praised Ashland for changing, and he gave her credit for helping him evolve. He asked her to help him set a wedding date that was after the first round of chemo.

Ashland and Jack on "Young and The Restless" 8/16/21

Ashland was at the Abbott house. He explained to Jack that he and Kyle had been unable to connect by phone. Jack blamed the seven hour time difference. Ashland asked Jack to call Kyle so that Ashland could announce the decision he’d made for Harrison. Jack texted Kyle to video call. Ashland said Tara’s arrest and Kyle leaving the country threw everything into chaos. There was no easy answer, no one way to satisfy everyone. He said they couldn’t look at it as a business deal. It wouldn’t be fair, and neither was life, for that matter. He said this wasn’t about him – a boy’s future and well being were at stake. Kyle called and asked what Ashland decided about Harrison.

Ashland said that when Tara admitted to the affair, he was furious with her and Kyle. But the result was that he learned what kind of woman Tara really was, threatening to take Harrison from Kyle, unless Summer broke up with him. According to Ashland, that was business as usual for Tara. He noted that Summer got her dream job, though. Kyle brought up all Tara and Sally put them through. Jack hoped Ashland didn’t plan to punish Kyle for supporting the woman he loved as she remained at the job that Ashland helped line up for her. Kyle said it didn’t mean he loved Harrison any less. Ashland said he started treatments today, and it could extend his life, or he could be dead in a matter of months. He was more determined to spend the time he had left with Harrison, since, once Ashland was gone, Kyle would have all the time in the world with the boy. Kyle thought he knew where this was going, but Ashland said not to be so sure.

Ashland’s first treatment went well, but the side effects made him feel like crap. He was told it could get much worse. He kept thinking about that day in the park, and the terrified look in Harrison’s eyes when Ashland was short of breath. He couldn’t stand the thought of putting Harrison through that again. Jack said that Harrison could remain at the Abbott house. Kyle nodded along with Jack’s statement. Ashland had considered and rejected that option already. Ashland said that, with Tara gone, Harrison needed a full time parent, and Ashland wasn’t able to fulfill that role at this point, so he felt that Harrison should go live in Milan. Ashland would visit Milan, in between treatments, when he was strong enough, and perhaps Kyle, Ashland and Harrison could meet up in NY, too. Smiling, Kyle said that was an excellent plan. Jack appreciated Ashland for this. Ashland had two stipulations. He wanted Kyle to keep him alive in Harrison’s mind. Ashland planned to video chat and send gifts, but he wanted the freedom to visit anytime his health allowed. Kyle promised he’d do everything he could to keep Ashland a strong presence in Harrison’s life. Secondly, Ashland wanted Tara to be allowed to see Harrison, with strict protocols in place. Kyle asked like what. Ashland said Tara was out on bail, but it could be months before her trial, and she wasn’t allowed to leave NY. When Kyle brought Harrison to NY to see Ashland, Ashland wanted Tara to be able to see her son, strictly supervised. Kyle said he could put his anger aside to do what Harrison asked.

Kyle on "Young and The Restless" 8/16/21

Kyle asked how they were going to handle telling Harrison that Tara had been arrested. Ashland thought they could say Tara was on a long time out because she broke the law and needed to pay for her actions. Jack suggested saying something less harsh. Ashland thought lying now could cause mistrust in the future when Harrison found out the truth. He said Harrison was smart, and when he visited Tara in the future, he’d notice restrictions were being placed on her. Kyle agreed, and Jack said he saw the point now. Kyle promised to be the best father he could to Harrison.

Ashland wanted to be the one to explain the move to Harrison. He didn’t want his son to think Ashland was abandoning him. Kyle was fine with that. Ashland went upstairs to see Harrison. Jack knew that wasn’t easy for Ashland. Kyle was blown away. He’d refused to let himself hope that Ashland could put everything aside and let Harrison go to Milan. Kyle couldn’t wait to see his son. Jack asked how Kyle was feeling about moving to Italy, getting back with Summer and being a full time father. Kyle said it was difficult being away from everyone in Genoa City, plus, as much as Summer enjoyed Harrison, it’d be an adjustment for her. Kyle asked how Jack was feeling. Jack said it was bittersweet. He missed Kyle like crazy. Kyle knew Jack would miss Harrison like crazy too. Jack said he’d cope. He knew this was best for Harrison. Kyle said he and Summer needed a fresh start. He asked Jack to be the one to bring Harrison to Milan. There was nothing Jack would like better.

Ashland came downstairs clutching his chest. Jack walked back into the living room and asked how things went. Ashland said it was harder for him than for Harrison, who took it all in stride. He said some kids viewed change as an adventure – Ashland was like that as a kid, too. It put his mind at ease that Harrison was in the Abbott’s capable hands. Jack recognized what a difficult year Ashland had. He said anything that brought Ashland happiness was a good thing. Ashland said Victoria pulled him out of the gloom and darkness and brought him more joy than he ever thought possible. Jack said he’d known Victoria all her life, and she was a keeper, so Ashland should hold on tight. Ashland intended to.

Billy on "Young and The Restless" 8/16/21

Billy ran into Victoria at Crimson Lights. He mentioned that he’d just picked the kids up at camp and dropped them off at home. She asked if the kids mentioned anything about her engagement. According to Billy, Katie wanted to be a flower girl, and Johnny wanted the wedding cake to be chocolate. Victoria laughed – she’d been worried about how the kids would take this, and all they cared about was the ceremony. Billy said kids were in their own world. He was sure they’d have more questions, and he and Victoria would handle it together, like they always did. She thanked him. He asked about Ashland’s first treatment. She said it went as expected. She was hopeful that it would give them more time together. He noted that she was going through a lot of changes – a merger, falling in love and planning a wedding all in a short amount of time. She asked if he disapproved of her marrying Ashland. He said he’d already voiced his concerns, and now he was trying his best to be supportive. She said she knew him, so she wanted him to say what was on his mind. He thought, maybe, deep down, she was worried she was making a mistake, and she was using him to voice her fears. She told him not to be absurd – she didn’t have the worries and doubts he’d cooked up in his frenzied imagination. He said he guessed they were both wrong about each other.

Victoria chuckled at her and Billy trying to psychoanalyze each other. He thought they may have found the sweet spot as exes, meaning they had a lot of history, and they’d both moved on, and they were both happy. So maybe, they were able to challenge each other in a way that was healthy. “Nobody knows each other like we do. And I’m hoping that we can keep it real. Say it like it is. Be honest with each other and still be aware that whatever we say to each other is taken in the spirit in which it was meant,” he said. She thought the technical term for that was called being friends. She hoped he was right and that they’d gotten to that place.

Devon on "Young and The Restless" 8/16/21

Devon visited Lily at her office. She noticed he seemed upset. He said he’d been on his way to Abby’s, but the closer he got, the more frustrated he felt, and he realized he wasn’t in a good head space to visit anyone. So he came here. Devon said Mariah was completely off the radar, and Jack said if she didn’t come back soon, he’d have to find another director of marketing. Lily wondered if Mariah was having second thoughts about becoming a surrogate. Devon thought that could be inferred from her texts. He didn’t think the texts sounded like her though. He felt it was out of character for Mariah to shirk her responsibility like this. Even Rey was involved now. Something didn’t feel right to him. He said Tessa agreed, and she knew Mariah better than anyone. Devon spoke with Sharon before he came, and she told him that someone was scrambling Mariah’s phone signal, and she hadn’t used any of her credit cards or made any phone calls. Lily asked about Abby. Devon said she was doing amazing, given that her husband wasn’t there. He said Abby was doing her best to say positive and understanding about Chance’s job. He said it was clear that this was killing Abby, though. She had to deal with this completely alone. Lily said that Abby had friends and family around, including Devon. She asked if he was having second thoughts.

Devon didn’t regret stepping up for Abby and Chance. He was upset though, because he knew Chance was a good guy, but he’d made a commitment to start a family with Devon’s best friend. Devon felt like Chance was putting his work over his responsibility to his family. Lily hoped Devon hadn’t said a word of this to Abby. He said he didn’t and wouldn’t. He told Lily how Abby had stopped making the videos because she didn’t want Chance to see how upset she was. He thought it was sad that Abby felt like she had to hide part of herself from her husband. Lily said Abby knew what she was getting into when she married him. Devon agreed. He said he was more upset at the situation than he was with Chance, who didn’t even know what was going on with Mariah. Lily decided to be optimistic that Mariah would come home when she was ready. She told Devon to keep being a good friend because the baby would need him. He wished there was more he could do.

Devon bumped into Victoria at Crimson Lights. She mentioned that she’d been so busy with the merger that she hadn’t checked in with Abby in awhile. Devon was sure Abby understood. Victoria asked if there was word on Chance, and Devon said no. She made plans to call her sister. He said he’d just visited Lily, and it reminded him how nice it was to have a sister to talk to. Victoria said Lily had been a lifesaver, taking on a larger role with the kids while Victoria focused on Ashland and his medical issues. He said Lily loved the kids. Victoria said any other woman wouldn’t be so accommodating – it spoke to the kind of woman Lily was.

Billy went to work, and he told Lily he’d talked with Victoria. He stopped himself and asked if she wanted these details. She said she loved hearing him ruminate about his ex. He decided to shut up, but she said she was just kidding. He said he and Victoria had been a bit brutally honest, but it didn’t spiral into something weird. Lily admitted it was asking a lot of her to expect her to always help figure out where things stood with Victoria. Billy understood that, but he thought it was good that he and Victoria were working toward something healthy. Lily thought Billy and Victoria liked having things unresolved between them, because it helped them feed off the competitive vibe. He conceded there might be something to that.

Lily’s statement sparked an idea in Billy. He proposed a series of online essays talking about the insanity or maturity of past relationships. One of their journalists could talk to a slew of celebrities about their current connections to their past lovers. She said it’d been done. He said they could focus on Genoa City then. Ask how people constantly ran into people from their past and still found a way to communicate. He said it was a small town. He added that it could be called The Ghost of Love. He thought she’d be the fantastic person to interview people. She thought this was a decent idea, but this suggestion was one of the best dodges she’d ever seen him pull. She said she really thought that secretly, he and Victoria didn’t want to resolve their issues. He thought Lily might be looking for that conflict because she was afraid of a real commitment. She said she’d done nothing but show how committed she was, so if someone was in denial, it wasn’t her.

Billy said he loved Lily, and there was no one else. He wasn’t in denial about his relationship with Victoria – she was the mother of his kids, and he got to have an opinion on her choices, especially how it effected his kids. Lily asked if Billy expected her to believe this was only about concern for his kids. “Not only, no,” he replied. He’d tried to convince himself that Victoria was doing the right thing by marrying Ashland, but every instinct he had told him otherwise. “Victoria marrying Ashland – it’s a mistake. It’s maybe the biggest mistake Victoria will ever make in her life,” he stated.

Devon went to the park and overheard Jack make sure the jet was ready for a flight to Milan tonight. Jack brought Devon up to speed on Kyle, Summer and Harrison. Jack said that people could say what they would about Ashland’s business tactics, but he truly loved that little boy. Jack and Kyle had expected Ashland to take Harrison to live with him, but to their surprise and delight, he agreed with the Abbotts. Devon said that was a huge sacrifice. Devon said just vague texts. Jack felt bad for Abby. Devon said she was strong, and they were all there for her. They wrapped up the conversation, and Jack left. Devon called someone and requested a favor.

Victoria on "Young and The Restless" 8/16/21

Victoria went home and asked Ashland how things went with the Abbotts. He said it was done. He’d told Harrison he’d be moving to Milan. Harrison had asked if he’d still get to see Ashland. Victoria assumed this was one of the hardest and most selfless things he’d ever had to do. He said it was up there. She’d never respected him more than she did now. He said he had to go with what he knew was best for Harrison and take his ego out of the equation. She thought it said a lot that he was able to do it and with such grace. He said he was looking at his life differently, thanks to her. She wouldn’t let him give her all the credit. She said he was the one doing all the work. He thought she should learn to take a compliment. She said he’d been thrown so many curves that would make others angry and bitter, and he saw it as a learning experience. She’d known a lot of people who thought they could change, but when the chips were down, they couldn’t or wouldn’t, but he’d redefined his life. She loved him for that. Ashland said he’d evolved in ways he didn’t think possible, and whether Victoria chose to acknowledge that or not, it was due to her influence. He looked at his life in such a different way now. He wanted to make the most of every day he had left. She said she’d cheer him on every day. He said that he needed her to do more than that – firstly, help him pick a date for their wedding. He wanted to be past the first round of chemo when it happened, but not so far in case the treatments weren’t successful. She said they would be. He said that would give them one more thing to celebrate.

Nick: So, it was a great concert. We raised a lot of money for New Hope. Really thought I was gonna earn some cool dad points with Faith, you know? But then Moses shows up with some VIP stuff from Devon, and i went right back from being the cool dad to just chaperone. Anyway, I’m sure you’ve heard it all from Faith.

Sharon: Yeah, her version was a little more pro-Moses, but she had a wonderful time

Nikki: Oh, nonsense. Now, I’ve been pouring lemonade and tea for Faith her entire life. At first, it was imaginary, though, for Miss Patsy and Faith, but now it’s actually real liquid.

Moses: Wait, who’s Miss Patsy?

Faith: Never mind. That’s not important.

Moses: No, no, now I’m curious.

Nikki: She was Faith’s first friend — a doll.

Faith: This was a long time ago, obviously.

Moses: No, actually, that sounds a lot like my favorite toy — Reggie Beggie. He was, like, a stuffed dinosaur with a football helmet.

Faith: Yeah, I don’t know if the helmet’s historically accurate.

Moses: No, no, it’s not, but he was a good friend to me growing up. He helped me through a lot of tough times.

Nikki: Well, that sounds like Miss Patsy. Faith took her everywhere, and she would always ask me to put six sugar cubes in Miss Patsy’s tea because Faith would say, “Grandma, she’s so sweet.”

Billy: Geez, are you kidding me? Well, our reporters are already all over it, questioning sources and staying on top of the details.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] You love this, don’t you?

Billy: It’s the best part of the journalism game — tracking down all the facts until it all comes together.

Lily: Well, I got to say, your instincts about Tara were spot on.

Billy: Well, it was clear she was trying way too hard to ingratiate herself into the Abbott family. And this is definitely one of those times that Phyllis’ meddling paid off. Once we were able to compare notes, she was off to the races, which led to Tara being arrested for embezzling money from her own company.

Lily: Yeah, I mean, that was bad, but what’s worse is using her own child to blackmail Summer into leaving town.

Billy: Well, this is definitely gonna drive a lot of traffic to the ChanceComm news site. Looks like the Lockes are the gift that keeps on giving.

Phyllis: You know, I knew that Sally was nothing but heartache for Jack — that’s why I was determined to keep her away from him.

Amanda: Well, he is really lucky to have a friend like you.

Phyllis: Yeah. You know, a lot of people are lucky to know me.

Amanda: [ Chuckles ]

Phyllis: I mean, what did I do? I reunited my daughter with the love of her life. I uncovered an actual crime — Tara’s embezzlement. And I stopped Lauren from going into business with a crook.

Amanda: Okay, as an attorney, I would advise that you never speak of how you managed to do that. As your friend, I think it was kick-ass.

Phyllis: You’ve been kicking ass, by the way — I mean, legally speaking.

Amanda: Mm, yeah, I have been. I want to make sure that I get justice for my father and Hilary. You know, in some ways, my mother. She was Sutton’s first victim. He crushed her spirit decades ago, and he made sure that everything in her life was about him and protecting his image.

Ashland: Oh, thank you for being so solicitous. I can’t believe what an attractive nurse I got this time.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Well, you’ve been a really great patient, even though I know you hate the role.

Ashland: But your shift is over. You’ve spent too much time coddling me, and we both have very important things to do. You need to make sure that our merged company is ready to take on the world. And I need to take on what’s best for my son.

Nikki: Well, moses, welcome.

Moses: Thanks for inviting me.

Victor: I’m so happy the two of you could join us and enjoy the pool. We have not gotten a lot of use of it lately. So, I’ll be back.

Nikki: Wait a minute, where are you going?

Victor: I have some unfinished business to deal with, okay? Enjoy yourselves.

Moses: Thank you.

Abby: [ Sighs ] Hi, honey. I miss you so much, chance. I know that you won’t see these videos until you get back, but i felt like I had to document this. And you might notice a big gap between this one and the last, and there’s a reason for that. This is a lot tougher than i thought it would be. And I have something to confess.

Sharon: Yeah, her version was a little more pro-moses, but she had a wonderful time.

Nick: You alright? You seem distracted.

Sharon: It’s mariah.

Nick: Is everything okay with her and the baby?

Sharon: I hope so, but i can’t be certain.

Nick: Why not?

Sharon: I haven’t talked to mariah in a while. She’s been unreachable.

Nick: What are you talking about?

Sharon: She replies to my texts sporadically, sends some of her own, but she never reveals where she is, and I — I’ve just started to think something is very wrong.

Nick: Well, what about tessa? Does she know where she is?

Sharon: No, that’s just it. Tessa doesn’t know. Abby doesn’t know. Nobody knows where mariah is.

Ashland: I know you arranged things so you could work from home for the rest of the day, but our newly formed newman-locke corporation needs hands-on leadership, not remote delegating.

Victoria: Well, that might be true, but I can multi-task with the best of them. I can handle your post-treatment nausea while prepping to put our company on the map.

Ashland: You know i appreciate your dedication and devotion, but, really, anything I need, I can get myself.

Victoria: Are you trying to kick me out of my own house?

Ashland: I am, yeah. So get out of here, why don’t you, huh? What would really help my recuperation would be to see you all over the business sites tomorrow morning.

Victoria: Well, I can’t guarantee that’s gonna happen by tomorrow morning, but it will happen very soon. And while you are a very amusing companion, you can be very stubborn.

Ashland: Thank you. I have a plethora of things that need my attention here, including returning kyle’s messages about harrison’s future.

Victoria: Okay, fine, fine. I will head to the office — on one condition. You have to promise to call me if you need anything.

Ashland: I will, but I can’t imagine what that would be.

Victoria: You know, you have been feeling very weak physically, I know that, but you seem somehow — I don’t know, you seem stronger, more determined.

Ashland: Well, my anti-nausea medication is working, and all those hours doing chemo has given me time to think and plan.

Victoria: Alright, well, whatever you decide in terms of harrison, just know I am behind you 100%.

Ashland: Thank you.

Victoria: Alright, call me if you need anything. I’ll see you later.

Ashland: Kyle, ashland locke here. I don’t intend to play phone tag over something as important as the wellbeing of my son. Decisions need to be made.

Nikki: Here.

Moses: Thank you, mrs. Newman, but I’m sure you have more important things to do than get us drinks.

Moses: [ Laughs ]

Nikki: You remember that?

Faith: Yeah, I do, but i don’t know if moses needs to hear all the details about my best friend, the doll.

Moses: Oh, no, are you kidding? I love this. Give me more.

Nikki: Well, I could go on and on. They were inseparable. I remember one time — oh, gosh, faith was maybe five or six, and we’d all piled in the car to go on a picnic. Well, we didn’t get very far.

Ashland: Yeah, jack, it’s ashland here. Would you give me a call as soon as you can? I’ve been trying to reach your son. We need to address this quickly. Thank you. Victor, nice to see you.

Victor: Ashland, nice to see you.

Ashland: Victoria is not here.

Victor: I know, she’s in her office. I came to see you.

Ashland: Ah, I see. I’ve been expecting this.

Victor: Yes. You don’t mind, do you?

Ashland: No, I don’T. Enjoy, please.

Victor: Thank you.

Ashland: So…I know your acceptance of our wedding plans was a bit too easy, but i welcome the opportunity to discuss things further. Victoria and I want the full support of her family.

Victor: I appreciate that.

Ashland: Well, let’s sort things out, shall we? I’m sure you have questions.

Victor: You bet. You know, the entire focus has been on what happens to victoria if you should die shortly. Now, that, of course, is a concern to all of us. But I’m curious as to what will happen if you should actually live. Why new woolite?

Ashland: I’m glad to see you’re thinking optimistically. You’re contemplating my future. No one here thinks I have one.

Victor: They’re all just a bunch of vultures, you know.

Ashland: We’ve come a long way, seeing that you were willing to let me die just months ago.

Victor: Oh, yeah, well, i just wanted you to sign the damn contract, you know? But I do want you to live for decades. I mean that.

Ashland: Thank you. I’m sure you know that the odds of me living even an extra year are slim.

Victor: However, that treatment — that new treatment that you will subject yourself to may prolong your life significantly, right?

Ashland: You know, it’s possible.

Victor: And that’s my concern, ashland. What will happen if you should live much longer?

Ashland: Are you worried about victoria or the company?

Victor: I’ve never worried about victoria, no.

Ashland: So your main concern now is with the new corporation.

Victor: You have been in an advisory role for newman-locke during this interim period. What happens, though, if you should fully recover? I mean, wouldn’t you want to expand upon that role?

Ashland: You know, you’re right. You concern is valid, especially now that your family business is half of the newman-locke conglomerate. Even though you’re not the newman with top billing. But could you blame me if sharing control of the company were to cross my mind?

Nick: So, mariah needs some space. I mean, that’s not unusual. Having your own baby can be stressful enough. You throw in the added element of a surrogacy, I can see how the pressure can go up. And abby’s great, but she’s not exactly low-key.

Sharon: I don’t think abby is the problem. She’s been really supportive. I thought, like you, it makes sense that mariah needed some time to herself, but…

Nick: You don’t believe that anymore.

Sharon: The whole thing feels off. Yesterday, we all reached out to her — me, tessa, and abby — we sent her personal messages telling her how much we love her and how much we want to help her.

Nick: I guess that didn’t go well?

Sharon: “Stop pressuring me. I’ll be home when I’m ready. Your ‘intervention’ is just making it worse. It’s time to back off.”

Nick: Mm. Yeah, I mean, it sounds harsh, but honestly, mariah can be harsh at times.

Sharon: Well, I’ve considered that, but it still just seems very strange. Look, I, um — I haven’t mentioned this to faith. I don’t want her to worry.

Nick: Yeah, I’m on board with that. I won’t say a word. Just, you know, let me know if there’s anything I can, okay?

Sharon: Thanks. I appreciate that.

Nick: What’s up, rey?

Rey: What’s up? Filled him in?

Sharon: Yeah, I thought he should know.

Nick: You know what? I’m gonna let you two talk. Again, if there’s anything I can do, don’t hesitate to ask.

Sharon: Thanks.

Nick: Hey, perfect timing. Sit down. I heard you have some news.

Victoria: Oh, really? Where did you hear that?

Nick: Mom. She didn’t say what it was, so what’s going on?

Victoria: Well, I’ve been a little nervous to tell you.

Nick: It’s got to be something big.

Victoria: It is. Ashland and I are engaged.

Nick: Wow. You two are giving new meaning to the term “whirlwind romance.”

Victoria: So you don’t approve?

Nick: I didn’t say that.

Victoria: Well, what are you saying?

Abby: And so mariah’s gone. I don’t know where she is. I don’t know where our baby is. And I have no news on the pregnancy because I just don’t know anything. There’s no new sonogram pics, no bump update, no description of those little baby kicks. I mean, I don’t even know how big mariah’s bump is. Is it the size of a — of a basketball, a beach ball? I don’t know. And I’m so sorry because I feel like I let you down. I don’t know if our baby’s safe. And for whatever reason mariah’s gone, I should have seen it coming. I am supposed to keep her here to make her feel protected and cared for, and if I can’t do that, then what kind of mother am I gonna be?

[ Sighs ]

Rey: Dead ends everywhere i looked.

Sharon: You still couldn’t trace mariah’s cellphone location?

Rey: I’m afraid not. I went beyond the app I tried using before, used the gcpd’s most advanced technology, and i finally got past the signal blocker.

Sharon: Well, that’s good, right?

Rey: Well, it should’ve been enough to give us some information, but there was a secondary level of security.

Sharon: What does that mean?

Rey: Well, it was like a kind of scrambler. It moved the signal all over the place so it couldn’t be pinpointed.

Sharon: This sounds like something out of a movie.

Rey: Yeah, you’d need a real sophisticated understanding of cellular tracking to pull it off. It’s definitely the work of an expert.

Sharon: Which mariah definitely is not.

Rey: Yeah, I thought the same thing.

Sharon: She couldn’t have done this. So what does that mean?

Moses: That was fun.

Nikki: Well, I’m glad you enjoyed yourselves.

Faith: Yeah, it felt good to get in the water on a hot day like this.

Nikki: Okay, moses, are you ready to hear more about faith growing up?

Faith: Grandma, please. You have to be out of stories by now.

Nikki: Oh, no, I’ve got a million of them.

Faith: Oh, I think I left my phone out by the pool.

Moses: Oh, I can — I’ll grab it for you.

Faith: Thank you.

Nikki: He is so considerate.

Faith: He is. But you may have scared him off with all those stories.

Nikki: Oh, now, it’s a grandmother’s prerogative to talk about a granddaughter. And I don’t think he was horrified at all. To the contrary. Oh, I so wish neil were here to see you having so much fun spending time together.

Faith: You need to stop trying to make this more than a friendship.

Nikki: Are you sure that’s all it is? I mean, he is so cute.

Faith: Grandma.

Nikki: Well, I remember when you told me you wanted to take the relationship to a deeper level.

Faith: I know.

Nikki: Well, has something changed?

Faith: No.

Nikki: I understand. You’ve had a very hard year, right after your mother’s very traumatic year. You’re waiting for something bad to happen. Darling, it’s okay. I mean, you should enjoy your time with moses. It’s alright to be happy.

Faith: Thank you.

Moses: Got your phone. And it looks like you got a new text from…miss patsy.

Nikki: [ Gasps ] Oh!

[ Laughs ]

Nick: You know what? I don’t think my opinion about you getting married matters. Are you happy?

Victoria: I am. I’m very happy.

Nick: Well, that’s what’s important.

Victoria: But I would be even happier if my brother would share in this special moment with me.

Nick: Vick, come on, I would love to shout it from the rooftops how happy I am about this, but I just — I mean, it’s so fast, and I — I don’t want to sound insensitive, but isn’t ashland, like, dying?

Victoria: Well, I — i actually have good news on that front. He’s decided to try some treatment. He’s actually undergoing a very promising type of chemotherapy.

Nick: If it were really promising, would you two be rushing into a wedding?

Victoria: Nobody’s rushing anywhere.

Nick: Look, I don’t want to argue about this with you, okay?

Victoria: I just was hoping that you would be on board. Even dad is happy for me.

Nick: Seriously?

Victoria: Yeah, seriously. We had a great talk, great long talk, and he supports this and he thinks that ashland is great for me, and it meant the world to me.

Nick: Well, I’m glad you two are finally agreeing on something.

Victoria: I understand that you have concerns, and I can tell that you still don’t approve.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Look, I just love you, alright? And I will reserve judgment until I have a little talk with ashland. Then I’ll make up my mind about what I think.

Victoria: Yes, that’s all I’m saying. Just spend some time with him, get to know him. I think you two will really like each other. I-I just want the whole family to make ashland feel welcome and accepted.

Nick: Well, I’m gonna grill him like he’s picking you up for prom.

Victoria: Good, it’ll be fun watching him hold his own against you.

Nick: We’ll see about that.

Ashland: I just think it’s extraordinary what victoria has accomplished, merging these two companies, you know? She worked long and hard. I think she deserves a moment in the sun, don’t you?

Ashland: I agree.

Victor: Yeah. I’d hate to find out that you took advantage of the situation.

Ashland: I have no idea how that would even work ’cause no one’s taking advantage of anyone here. Victoria and I have made decisions together every step of the way. We are moving forward with open eyes.

Victor: I just find it curious, ashland, that shortly after merging these two arguably most powerful corporations in the world, you decided to seek treatment for your illness and then marry my daughter in quick succession.

Ashland: You know, the situation I’m in doesn’t allow for a lot of contemplation. Whether you know it or not, in the best of times, I’ve always acted very decisively and moved swiftly.

Victor: But how fortuitous it would be if you were to recover from your illness and then suddenly step in as the head of this worldwide empire.

Ashland: Let me get this straight. You’re implying that I faked my fatal illness in an attempt to put together this merger? Is that what you’re saying?

Victor: I think you’re getting the drift.

Ashland: [ Laughs ] That’s rich. Now, we all know progressive offers 24/7 protection,

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Ashland: I’m flattered, really, that you would think i could be so diabolical and ruthless. You know, it’s a badge of honor between men like us.

Victor: You know, ashland, it’s all well and good, but you haven’t told me if you think my hypothesis is accurate.

Ashland: This time your instincts have let you down.

Victor: Hmm.

Ashland: I’m sick, victor. I’m very sick. I can’t even imagine inventing a situation like this one. You give me too much credit. And if you don’t believe me, you’ll get your proof if these treatments don’t work.

[ Chuckles ] You know, with that unreadable expression of yours, I can never tell exactly where I stand with you.

Victor: I’ve been told that before.

Ashland: I’m sure. You know, now I have a question for you.

Victor: Hmm.

Ashland: Knowing what you know about the situation with victoria and me and this whole scenario, if I were to collapse on the floor right now, how much time would you wait to call 911?

Victoria: Well, hello.

Victor: Hi, sweetheart.

Victoria: What’s going on?

Ashland: Well, your father was just wondering if I faked my illness in order to conjure up the merger between newman and locke.

Victoria: What?

Ashland: The plan involves me surviving so I can take over our new company, which would be more powerful than the company that i spent an entire lifetime building. That’s more or less it, right, victor?

Victor: That’s about the gist of it.

Victoria: Dad, how could you?

Abby: I know you don’t want to hear this, but I’m really hurting right now. I’m all alone. And two of the most important people in my life are unreachable. It’s almost too much to bear. And I may not understand mariah’s texts or what they mean, but I do know you. And I know exactly what you would do in this situation. I can hear your voice in my head and I know that — that you would hold me and you would use that reassuring voice and you would tell me that it’s not my fault — even when it partially is. And you would rub my shoulders, like you always do. And you would tell me that it was all gonna work out. You would see a strength in me that I didn’t know that I had. And I would find the strength to get through this. And that’s what I have to do right now. So, chance, I’m not gonna sit here anymore. I’m not gonna wait and worry. I hear you. And I will not let you or our baby down.

[ Sighs ]

Rey: I completely agree with you. Mariah could not have constructed a system like that. I mean, I’ve seen her have trouble with apps on her own phone. But that doesn’t mean that she doesn’t know somebody with those skills.

Sharon: Is that what you think happened?

Rey: Well, she could have someone helping her cover her tracks. Does she have any technically savvy friends?

Sharon: Yeah, kevin fisher. He knows a lot about this kind of stuff. He could’ve helped her.

Rey: Yeah, that’s the first person I thought of, too.

Sharon: Did you ask him about it?

Rey: I did. He is worried about mariah. It’s genuine. I don’t think he would help her hide from people who care about her. I think he’d try to talk her out of something like that.

Sharon: Yeah, that seems right. Kevin’s done some shady things in his past, but he’s always had her best interests at heart. But that means that tessa might be right, that mariah is being held against her will.

Rey: Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

Sharon: Okay, but if she is, if she’s in trouble, she needs our help.

Rey: Slow down. We don’t need to worry about “what ifs” until we get more facts. Look, I’m gonna keep digging, alright? But tell me this — do you know anyone who would have a reason to abduct mariah?

Sharon: There was this man named ian ward.

Rey: Yeah, okay, you’ve told me about him. The leader of the cult she grew up in.

Sharon: He was a little obsessed with mariah. He wanted to make her his wife.

Rey: Okay.

Sharon: But he’s in prison.

Rey: Well, I will check to make sure that he’s still there. But it seems unlikely that it would be him. I mean, we would’ve heard if he’d been released.

Sharon: Well, I can’t think of anyone else who would want to hurt mariah.

Rey: Well, what about that trouble that tessa had gotten herself into? Could any of those people that she was involved with want to strike back at tessa by taking mariah?

Sharon: I really don’t think so. There’s nothing left of that crime ring.

Rey: Well, give me all the information you have on them so I can make sure. I’m going to dig into her credit cards and her bank accounts and see if we can come up with anything.

Sharon: I thought you said you needed a warrant or at least paul’s permission to do something like that.

Rey: I do. And I think it’s time we make this investigation official.

Sharon: You know I’ve had my suspicions for a while, but hearing you say that you think something is wrong, now I am really scared.

Rey: Listen to me. If mariah’s in danger, I will find her and I will bring her home. I promise you. Your heart is at the heart of everything you do.

Sharon: Oh, hi, abby.

Abby: Sharon.

Sharon: Oh, hi, abby.

Abby: I need to know something. What did you think of mariah’s response to our intervention?

Sharon: Um…I’m not sure.

Abby: I mean, what did she want us to do with that text? I mean, is she really that desperate for us to back off? That doesn’t even sound like her.

Sharon: Text messages are hard to interpret. What did tessa think?

Abby: Tessa is convinced that someone took mariah, so she went to go see her sister to see if it’s maybe someone from their past.

Sharon: [ Sighs ] Rey found that the method used to hide the location of mariah’s phone is very high-tech. It’s very professional.

Abby: Oh, my god. Tessa’s right, someone has her.

Sharon: Well, it doesn’t prove anything.

Abby: Well, it looks worse and worse. What are we gonna do now?

Sharon: Rey had decided to open an official police investigation. He’s gonna use all the resources of the department, and right now he’s checking on her credit card use, so that should give us some leads. But if mariah is in trouble, rey will find her.

Abby: He has to. Nothing can happen to mariah and our baby.

Victoria: You come into my house and you —

Ashland: Victoria, I’m not upset. It’s a valid concern. I’m sure I would have the same suspicions if I was in victor’s place.

Victor: Now, darling, when one considers a man of ashland’s reputation, all possibilities must be considered.

Ashland: Your father’s intentions were honorable.

Victoria: He accused you of faking a serious illness.

Ashland: Well, in order to gauge my intentions, no doubt. I’m not insulted at all. And to be honest, you know, it’s a ploy that at one point, when I was young, that I may have contemplated in order to gain control of a company. But I give you my word, victor, that my sickness is real, as is my love for your daughter. And if you want, I will share with you my medical records if that will put your mind at ease. As for my love for victoria, there are no official documents to prove that. I hope that my determination to get well and to stay alive so I can spend this time with your daughter will prove what’s in my heart.

Victoria: Is that what you wanted to hear?

Victor: Yes, it is, my dear. Ashland, I want to thank you. I appreciate very much you clearing up my doubts.

Faith: I’m sorry about my grandma. I didn’t think that she would tell you all of my embarrassing stories.

Moses: Are you kidding me? They weren’t embarrassing at all. I mean, you were a little kid, of course you played with dolls.

Faith: Well, I loved hearing about reggie beggie.

Moses: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, you’re gonna have to ask devon or lily what I was like when i was younger. I’m sure they’ll tell you I had a stuffed animal collection.

Faith: [ Chuckles ]

Moses: You know your grandmother meant well. Right? She just likes the fact that the two of us are friends.

Faith: My grandma thinks that we’re more than friends.

Moses: Really? Are we?

Faith: Maybe.

Moses: Maybe? That sounds good. That gives me hope.

Faith: I… I want to be more than friends.

Moses: You do?

Faith: I know we were trying to take it slow, but…I feel like I’m ready for more.

Faith: I — we —

Nick: What is going on here?

Victor: Well, victoria was upset with me. But ashland locke seems to understand my concerns.

Nikki: I really wish you had let me know what you were up to.

Victor: You would’ve told me not to do it.

Nikki: You’re absolutely right.

Victor: You know, I’m very unhappy about my relationship with victoria. Every time I say something, she seems to be upset.

Nikki: Well, you did go behind her back to interrogate her fiancé.

Victor: Sweetheart, doesn’t she understand that I’m doing it for her, out of love for her? I don’t want her to be taken advantage of by ashland locke. You know, I know these guys. They’re sharks. I just am very upset that perhaps my relationship with victoria will never get back to what it once was.

Nikki: Darling, maybe right now she can only see the meddling and not the motive behind it. Perhaps the most loving thing you can do for her right now is to step back completely and let her fly on her own.

Victor: [ Scoffs ] Yeah, well…

Victoria: I tell you, I just don’t understand it. How my father could accuse you of something so heinous. Alright, I do understand it. You know why? Because the plan that he laid out is exactly something that he would do. He actually thinks that other people’s minds work the same way as his. He’s always been like that.

Ashland: Well, then maybe you should stop letting him upset you and just accept the fact that he’s never gonna change.

Victoria: So I’m supposed to just put up with this behavior for the rest of time?

Ashland: Why don’t we do something to take your mind off victor? Let’s go for a ride around the lake or a walk in the woods, something soothing.

Victoria: That’s a great idea. I know just the spot.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Ashland: It’s jack abbott. I couldn’t reach kyle earlier, so I left him a message. I told him that we need to finally decide on harrison’s future.

Victoria: What have you decided?

Abby: [ Sighs ] Tessa, hey, it’s me, abby. Call me when you can. I wanted to see how everything is going with your sister. Could really use some good news right now. Call me.

Sharon: Did you find anything?

Abby: Is mariah using her credit cards?

Sharon: What did you find out?

Rey: Unfortunately, not much. There’s been zero activity on her credit cards, no money has been extracted from her bank accounts, and she hasn’t made a single call from her phone, only texts.

Abby: That’s not possible. If mariah was doing this on her own, I mean, she would need money, she would have to pay for a hotel, food. She’d have to use her cards.

Sharon: She would have to call someone at some point.

Abby: Okay, that’s it. We have to face the facts. Mariah did not run away, something has happened to her.

Next week on

“the young and the restless”…

Nick: For the next few hours, it’s gonna be a tribute to all the things about you that make me crazy. I’m calling it “phyllis appreciation day.”

Nikki: Well, I am very protective about the people i love. And make no mistake, my husband isn’t the only one who knows how to take matters into his own hands.

Lauren: What am I toasting to?

Me, of course. Lauren, this is my last day as your assistant.

Adam: I assume this is about chelsea?

Rey: No, mariah copeland. I was wondering the last time you had contact with her.

Devon: Hey, you.

Elena: Hey.

Devon: How you doing? Need caffeine already?

Elena: Yeah, is it that obvious? You want to join me?

Devon: Sure.

Elena: I need to get off of my feet. I’ve worked two consecutive shifts, and I am beat.

Devon: Man, that sounds rough. I’m sorry.

Elena: [ Sighs ] Honestly, I shouldn’t even be complaining. Nate’s practically been sleeping at the hospital since he got his big promotion.

Devon: I wasn’t aware that he got any promotion. He hasn’t said anything to me about it.

Elena: Oh. He probably hasn’t mentioned it ’cause he hasn’t had the time. He’s been so busy.

Devon: What’s the job?

Elena: Your cousin is the new chief of surgery at memorial.

Devon: Chief of surgery?

Elena: Mm-hmm.

Devon: That’s interesting. I thought that was the job that abby’s ex stitch was offered ’cause that’s apparently the whole reason he’s moving back to genoa city.

Elena: No, you must have misunderstood. His actual first day was today. He’s been knocking himself out trying to get up to speed with everything.

Devon: Wow. I’m surprised this is the first I’m hearing about it. How’s that gonna work out for the two of you? Is it gonna make things weird?

Elena: Why?

Devon: ‘Cause that means he’s your boss now, right?

Amanda: Good morning.

Phyllis: Hey.

Amanda: I am so sorry that I’m running late.

Phyllis: Oh, no, that’s okay.

Amanda: I see you already ordered our drinks.

Phyllis: Yes, I did. You know, I owe you one. You were the one who helped me break down the timeline about when summer decided to leave kyle. You helped me focus on when exactly she was offered that job in milan, and I really appreciate it.

Amanda: No, no, I didn’t do much. I just applied a bit of critical analysis to the facts — your facts.

Phyllis: You’re so modest. Yes, you did a lot. Seriously. You helped me uncover that tara and sally were completely behind getting my daughter out of town. And by the way, those two little girls got what they deserved.

Amanda: [ Chuckles ] Well, I am just glad that I was able to help. I know this is bittersweet for you, though, you know, since summer and kyle decided to stay in milan.

Phyllis: Yeah. I did all of that work to get her to come back. Doesn’t seem like such a victory to me..

Amanda: Yeah, but, hey, you were right, right? And you saved summer from a lot of heartache, so that is something to celebrate. Right? Look at how well everything is going for everyone you care about. Hmm?

Nick: Hey, jack.

Jack: Hey.

Nick: How you holding up? I, uh — I know you’ve been hit with a lot lately, with finding out about sally and tara’s arrest and then kyle deciding to stay in milan.

Jack: Yeah, I’m still processing everything. I know phyllis was hoping that summer would come home after the truth came out. I talked with her at great length yesterday about how shocked she was they decided to stay in milan to allow for summer to enjoy that career opportunity.

Nick: Yeah, phyllis is very disappointed.

Jack: Yeah, so am I. It’s so strange that kyle is gonna be so far away, but i couldn’t be any happier that he and summer finally have a chance after all the extremes that sally and tara went to to keep them apart.

Nick: I know you were starting to hang out with sally again. Phyllis seemed pretty confident that it hadn’t gotten too deep before everything blew up. Is she right about that?

Victoria: You need to be thoroughly hydrated for your treatment. Have you been drinking enough water?

Ashland: Yes, plenty.

Victoria: Okay, well, that’s good. And the doctor’s office said to keep a bunch of those little ginger candies and ginger tea on hand just in case you get nauseous, so I’m all stocked up.

Ashland: I don’t think all that will be necessary.

Victoria: Well, we’re gonna follow the doctor’s orders to make sure that everything goes smoothly, and I’m gonna be there with you, keeping you company the whole time.

Ashland: Oh, you don’t need to go with me. I’m just gonna be sitting in a chair with a needle in my arm for god knows how long. And I will have bach’s brandenburg concertos there to keep me entertained for the duration. I’ll be fine.

Victoria: Just at least let me drop you off, and then I can pick you up when you’re done.

Ashland: As long as it doesn’t interfere with the rest of your day. The post-merger transition still needs a lot of oversight, and i want you to continue with the business of living.

Victoria: And that’s exactly what I intend to do. But before I focus on our business merger, there is a little matter with our personal merger. I know that we said we’d wait, but I need to share the happy news of our engagement with a few people.

Ashland: Oh.

Billy: Wow. Our phones are blowing up this morning.

Lily: I know. That tara locke arrest was a real shocker. Staff is really busy.

Billy: We’ve got a lot of work to do to make sure that we cover this story thoroughly. It’s a good thing victoria’s coming over to spend some time with the kids before she takes them to day camp.

Lily: Yeah, it’ll make it easier to focus.

[ Cellphones chime ]

Billy: Well, this is definitely gonna drive a lot of traffic to the chanccomm news site. Looks like the lockes are the gift that keeps on giving.

Jack: I guess it’s no secret that there was something about sally I found very attractive. Her fearless spirit, her willingness to take on the world. Very enticing qualities. The very same qualities that make sally her own worst enemy.

Nick: Yeah, phyllis and sally are a lot alike in that way. Reckless abandon can be intoxicating.

Jack: Fortunately, my relationship with sally never got that far. I was never that invested. In no small part because of phyllis. She played the spoiler all the way through.

Nick: [ Sighs ] I tried to warn her several times to just stay out of your business.

Jack: Yeah, so did I, but you know what? She wasn’t wrong. She saw a train wreck coming a mile away. She was determined — absolutely determined — to open my eyes about sally, and I owe her a debt of gratitude. There was nothing she wouldn’t do to stop me from making a huge mistake.

Nick: Phyllis certainly knows you well.

Jack: Maybe better than anyone.

Phyllis: Well, here’s to saving the world from selfish, manipulative people one person at a time.

Amanda: Cheers.

Phyllis: Clink.

[ Laughs ]

Lily: Well, the kids are ready to go. They’re very excited to see you. They’re just finishing up their game.

Victoria: Thank you both for stepping up with the kids. I really appreciate it. I can’t tell you what a relief it is to know that I can count on you. You’ve really gone the extra mile to make this work.

Lily: Of course, yeah. We’re just all working together in the best interest of the children, as it should be.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] I agree. That’s why I stopped by early. I have something important that I want to share with the kids, but first, I’d like to tell both of you.

Billy: Okay.

Victoria: Ashland and I are engaged. When I get a migraine,

Billy: Wow. I, uh — I just — I didn’t see this coming.

Victoria: Well, neither did I. Ashland surprised me with a proposal while we were in new york.

Billy: Which is what we talked about, how your relationship would be moving a little bit quicker than it would have otherwise because of ashland’s illness.

Victoria: So do you disapprove?

Billy: No, no, that’s not what I’m saying. I mean…I approve, and I’ve said so in the past. I just, um — I mean, clearly you’ve fallen for the guy, but getting married, vick, are you sure?

Victoria: Yes, I am. I love him, and he loves me.

Lily: Yeah, billy, you said yourself that victoria has met her match in ashland.

Victoria: Uh, ashland starts the chemo for his illness today. It’s a cutting-edge protocol.

Billy: Well, that’s good. I thought he was adamant about not getting treatment and he didn’t want to spend whatever time he had left in a hospital bed. So I guess you were able to convince him otherwise.

Victoria: Well, it’s something that we decided together. I have faith that this is gonna prolong his life, and ashland wants me by his side through the treatment and beyond as his wife, and I want to help him fight this.

Lily: Yeah, I’m really sure this engagement has given him more motivation to live. And I think it’s really brave what you’re doing. I know how scary it is to face cancer and your own mortality, so I really hope that this new treatment will give him — you know, both of you — the future that you’re dreaming of.

Victoria: Thank you. That means a lot. Billy, I know what you’re thinking. It’s okay. And I appreciate that you care enough to worry.

Moses: Congratulations on your big promotion, man.

Nate: Oh, thanks, buddy. I’m not gonna lie, it’s a lot of responsibility, not to mention the long hours.

Moses: Yeah, well, you got to expect that, mr. Chief of surgery.

Nate: Yeah, that’s kind of what I wanted to talk with you about.

Moses: Okay. What’s up?

Nate: There’s gonna be a lot of changes in my life with this promotion. I’m not gonna be as available for you at the hospital or askmdnow. I’m still committed to making this work for you at both places, but I also know you started to question whether you really want to pursue a career in medicine.

Moses: Yeah. I really appreciate what you’ve done for me since I’ve been here. I mean, setting up my volunteer work at the hospital and my internship.

Nate: I mean, well, you told me being a doctor was a dream of yours. Of course I wanted to do everything I could to help you realize it. And now, if you’re having doubts, I’m more than happy to talk with you, you know, help you figure out whatever’s best for you.

Moses: You know, at first, i thought it was just what happened to you when you had that allergic reaction and i froze. You know, I started to wonder if I could handle all the things that I’ve seen doctors do at the hospital. And I believe you when you said that med students freeze at the first time they see stuff like that. And I appreciate the time you’ve given me to think this through, but I think it was more than that.

Nate: What do you mean?

Moses: That dream I had, it was just an idea of what being a doctor was like. And you gave me the opportunity to see the reality of it, and i appreciate that, but I realize now that it’s not what I want to do anymore.

Elena: I never actually thought about nate being my boss. I was so excited about his big promotion that it just never dawned on me. But now that you mention it…

Devon: Well, no, hey, i didn’t say it ’cause I think it’s gonna be a bad thing. You know, you guys have been working together for a while at the clinic. You’re both professionals, both respect each other. It seems like you guys have gotten back to a good place personally, too.

Elena: Yeah, you’re right. And somehow, in spite of everything, our relationship has grown stronger in the past couple of months and things feel more solid.

Devon: There you go. That’s good. You have nothing to worry about. If anybody can figure out how to balance their work and personal lives, it’s the two of you, especially after everything you’ve been through. Not gonna let something like this get in your way. We don’t use just any wipe,

Moses: I feel kind of bad, you know, coming here all hyped up wanting to go into medicine.

Nate: No.

Moses: You went through so much trouble for me.

Nate: Not at all. Dude, you’re 16 and nowhere near figuring out what life is all about. You’re doing exactly what you’re supposed to be doing. Finding out that medicine isn’t your thing, it puts you ahead of the game. Being a doctor and all it entails just isn’t for everybody.

Moses: I get that now. I just can’t help but feel like I’ve wasted your time.

Nate: You didn’t waste a minute. As long as you learned from it all, it was time well spent. I don’t want to hear you talking like that.

Moses: Okay, thanks.

Nate: Look, you had an interest and pursued it with drive and passion and found out it wasn’t exactly what you expected. That was a valuable experience. There is no shame in that. You learned a lot about yourself and got to see a slice of the world not many people ever see.

Moses: Hmm.

Nate: So no more looking backwards. Let’s move forward. Time to make a new plan.

Moses: Yeah, maybe I should check a few things out, take a couple new electives this fall.

Nate: Didn’t you say you had some interest in the music industry? What devon does?

Moses: Yeah.

Nate: Maybe you should look into some classes that would dovetail with that type of career.

Moses: [ Exhales ] Thanks for being so understanding. You know, I think part of my interest in medicine was tied in with losing my dad.

Nate: Hmm.

Moses: And, you know, maybe the music thing is, too. It was something he was interested in.

Nate: You never know. Some things are in the dna.

Moses: No, I — I can’t help but wonder how cool it would be to be a part of hamilton-winters.

Nate: Mm, yeah.

Moses: Just trying to find my spot, you know?

Nate: I do. And you need to know, you’ve got my support, whatever you decide.

Victoria: Where’s lily?

Billy: She took off. She had a meeting at the office. So how did the kids take the big news?

Victoria: They seemed very receptive. Johnny admitted he was a little sad because of all of this talk about ashland’s illness, but he’s looking at it as a sign that he might get better.

Billy: Optimistic. That’s my boy.

Victoria: Yes. He also compared it to one of his video games where everybody wins if they work together.

Billy: [ Chuckles ] That’s a very sophisticated thought for a kid his age.

Victoria: You know, both of our kids seem excited about the changes in their parents’ lives.

Billy: Yeah, they’re resilient. They’re pretty amazing.

Victoria: Well, they have certainly had their fair share of things to deal with.

Billy: Yeah, well, we all have. Look, I don’t want to add anything on top of everything you’re going through, but you know chanccomm is going to have to cover the story about tara’s arrest. It is news.

Victoria: Yes, it was quite a turn of events.

Billy: And I hope I’m not gonna get any pushback from ashland. I promised not to cover any stories about his illness, but this is a completely different issue.

Victoria: Well, I doubt that he’ll be very upset. He’s not interested in protecting tara. However, he doesn’t want harrison to find out that his mother’s been arrested.

Billy: Speaking of harrison, is he gonna be moving in with the two of you? Have you told the kids that they’re gonna have to share their toys with a new stepbrother?

Victoria: I don’t know. We haven’t decided yet. Everything’s just been moving so quickly. Ashland still has things to work out with jack and kyle, but now kyle’s moved to milan, so that’s further complicated things.

Billy: Yeah, I can understand why that would be an issue for ashland.

Victoria: How does chanccomm intend to portray him in this? I hope that you’re not planning on making him look complicit in anyway, because if you do, you’re gonna have a problem — not just with ashland, but also with me.

Billy: Come on, you don’t believe he had nothing to do with this, right? I mean, do you not think that he had any idea what tara was up to and he just turned a blind eye?

Victoria: He knew nothing about it. Why would he? Tara’s crimes, they didn’t benefit him at all.

Billy: So you think she could’ve pulled this off by herself.

Victoria: This was all tara. Maybe she was secretly protecting herself because she didn’t want ashland to find out about the affair or about harrison’s paternity, so she was siphoning off her investors to create a financial safety net for herself.

Billy: Well, I understand that motivation, but you do realize that creates a whole other problem.

Victoria: What does that mean?

Billy: If that is the focus of the story, that means this is about tara, her affair with my nephew, and the child that resulted. That puts not only harrison, but the abbott family smack in the middle of it.

[ Knock on door ]

Lily: Jack, hello.

Jack: How are you, lily?

Lily: I’m good. Sorry, billy’s not here. He’s actually at the house still ’cause victoria stopped by to visit.

Jack: Actually, I don’t need to talk to my brother just yet. I want to know if chanccomm is planning on running a story about tara locke’s arrest.

Lily: Well, I mean, everybody else is, so why wouldn’t we?

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Phyllis: You know, I was certain that nick was gonna get mad at me and stop me from “meddling,” you know, in the tara/sally thing.

Amanda: He didn’t?

Phyllis: He didn’T. Can you believe that? In fact, he helped me. He was the one who talked to tara’s accountant. He got the accountant to flip.

Amanda: Yes, but summer’s happiness and her future was at stake. Nick would do anything for her, so I just — I don’t think that you should see this as a blanket endorsement for your meddling tendencies.

Phyllis: Oh, you mean my, um, unwavering desire to help people that I love? Is that what you’re talking about?

Amanda: I suppose you could see it that way, yes. Okay.

Phyllis: Well, I’ll continue to protect people I love, for sure. And nick will continue to love me, even if it drives him crazy.

Amanda: That is amazing, being loved like that, huh? Just even if it comes with baggage and complications, it’s just… [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: We’re not talking about me anymore. What’s going on with you?

Amanda: Devon told me that he’s in love with me.

Phyllis: What? Why didn’t you lead with that?

Amanda: I don’t know.

Phyllis: Seriously, that’s amazing. Of course he’s in love with you ’cause you’re amazing, that’s why. Look at — and I’m so glad I talked you out of leaving him. Look at what I do for people. Look at this. I’m batting 1,000.

Amanda: [ Sighs ] I just — I feel so lucky right now, you know, loving and being loved by this amazing man. And then I found my family and I’m building a relationship with my mother after all of these years. And despite this whole ordeal with sutton, I just — I feel so lucky and I feel like it is so much more than I have ever expected and maybe more than i deserve.

Phyllis: Oh, no, you deserve this. You deserve this. Every bit of it.

Devon: Well, hey, congratulations on your big promotion that I had to hear about from elena.

Nate: [ Chuckles ]

Moses: It’s a pretty impressive new position, cuz. I’m proud to call you family.

Nate: Proud of you, too, moses. You know, not many kids your age give their career goals a serious thought. Considering your options and testing them out, smart move.

Moses: You know, I’ve been thinking maybe I could do something for hamilton-winters’ music division? Nate and I have been talking about maybe setting up a plan.

Devon: Yeah, man, that’s — that’s great advice. I remember when our dad told me to do the same thing when I was about your age. He said that I needed to visualize my goals and what i saw myself accomplishing, and then I’d be able to make the right choices to get there, so that changed my life when I did it.

Moses: Not sure what I want to do right now. I was so focused on medicine, i never really had a second option. But I’m really excited about music industry, and I just want to learn more about it, maybe see where I can fit in.

Devon: Yeah, yeah, for sure, man. I think the best thing to do would just be to get you into the studio, you know? Just have some hands-on experience, see how things work. I’ll set up an internship for you.

Moses: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, thanks. That sounds cool.

Devon: Absolutely. You got it, man. Now, know, though, it’s not as glamorous as you probably imagine. There is some hard work to be done.

Nate: Don’t get it twisted, though, it’s not brain surgery.

Moses: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: Well, no, no, it’s definitely not what dr. Askmdnow is up to, you know. That’s a whole nother thing. Soon you’re not gonna be able to go outside without an entourage.

Moses: Yeah, nate, I mean, you’re getting so famous, i don’t think you can walk outside without body guards.

Nate: [ Laughs ]

Moses: I’ve seen how people look at you when they recognize you.

Nate: Ha-ha-ha-ha. Very funny, alright? But seriously, though, moses, you’ve proven you’re willing to work hard to get where you want to be. Now you just have to follow neil’s advice to devon.

Devon: That’s right, just visualize your goals.

Nate: And follow your instincts and your heart.

Devon: And then you find a passion and you go for it.

Ashland: Please stop fussing over me, darling. I’m fine. I just hate that I interrupted your day. You know, I could’ve driven myself home.

Victoria: I’m just really glad to hear you don’t feel tired or worn out.

Ashland: My only complaint is that it was a tedious experience, even with bach.

Victoria: Ashland?

If you have postmenopausal

osteoporosis

Nate: So, moses has decided that the field of medicine is just not for him.

Elena: Really? He seemed so sure he wanted to be a doctor.

Nate: Witnessing my allergic reaction turned out to be a game-changer. I got to admit, I can’t help being a little disappointed. You know, I love the idea of mentoring my young cousin, being there for him the way my mother was for me. But that was about me. I fully support whatever he decides to do.

Elena: He’s still gonna come to you if he has a problem. It’s not like you lost your bond.

Nate: I honestly just want moses to find his passion, to be as happy and fulfilled with his career as we are in ours.

Elena: No, he has a long time to figure out what’s right for him.

[ Cellphone chimes ] Ahh. It’s the hospital. They need me back to assist with a surgery.

Nate: Hey, that’s the price you pay for being so good at what you’re passionate about.

Elena: Ugh. Thanks, but after two long shifts, I’m exhausted. I’m tempted to find someone to cover my shift.

Nate: Well, you know, I could take a look at the schedule, shift a few things around now that —

Elena: Hey. Don’t even joke about that.

Victoria: Hi. How are you feeling now that you’ve taken your medication?

Ashland: You know, I think I’ll be okay once it kicks in. Doctors told me to be prepared for this. It just hit me so suddenly. Please don’t worry. This is all part of the process. Promise me you’re gonna get on with your day.

Victoria: I’ve already arranged to work from home.

Ashland: Of course you did. You — you’re always prepared for any possible outcome.

Victoria: Well, I am perfectly capable of managing the company while taking care of the people that I love who need me.

Phyllis: Are your ears burning?

Nick: Excuse me?

Phyllis: I was having mimosas with amanda, and I was talking about how amazing you are.

Nick: Mm. Were you talking about my ruggedly handsome good lucks or my muscular physique?

Phyllis: Nope. Your personality. And how you not only supported me when I went after tara and sally, but you helped.

Nick: So you love me because I will acknowledge when you’re right about something.

Phyllis: Yeah, yeah, that’s one of the reasons.

Nick: Alright. Well, while you were having a girl talk with amanda, I was having a guy talk with jack. And your name happened to come up.

Phyllis: Oh, really? Did you say how much you love me and I’m the reason that you have a smile on your face every morning?

Nick: No, he was saying how grateful he is to you, you know, for helping him see the truth about sally.

Phyllis: Oh, yeah, well, you know, she didn’t deserve him.

Nick: He also said that you might know him better than anyone on this earth.

Billy: Hey, jack. Why am I not surprised to find you here?

Lily: Jack came by to see if we’re running the tara locke story, which I assured him we are.

Billy: Well, of course we are. It’s news. We can’t not pursue it.

Jack: What, you can’t not pursue it?

Lily: We promised that we would not exploit ashland’s illness, and we won’T.

Billy: Absolutely not. This will be about tara and the fact that she embezzled money from her company and how she did it.

Lily: Yeah, we have a reporter reaching out to her lawyer for a comment.

Jack: That is exactly what i am concerned about.

Lily: Jack, I know that you’re worried because she’s the mother of your grandson, but she was led out of your home in handcuffs. I mean, she was married to a man who was worth a fortune and siphoned money from her company. That’s a big story. We can’t ignore that.

Billy: Lauren was lucky enough to find out the truth before she tried to acquire her company.

Jack: Look, I am not condoning anything tara locke did. What she did to summer is reprehensible. As always, I’m concerned about kyle and my grandson, and you both know they will become the story.

Billy: Jack, you can’t honestly ask us not to cover this.

Jack: That’s exactly what I’m doing. So then I said to him,

Devon: Well, look at you, you’re all smiles today. I like that.

Amanda: Well, why wouldn’t i be? I had a great morning with phyllis, and now I get to steal some alone time with you.

Devon: Aww. I bet she was in a good mood after exposing tara and getting justice for summer.

Amanda: Oh, yeah, she was in rare form. But that wasn’t the only topic of conversation.

Devon: Oh, really?

Amanda: Mm-hmm. We talked about the men in our lives and how lucky we are.

Devon: Is that right? Well, I can’t speak for nick, but I’m pretty sure that I’m the lucky one here.

Amanda: Well, I can’t argue with that, but I think the reality is that we both are because we have each other.

Devon: I think you’re right.

Amanda: Yeah?

[ Both laugh ]

Devon: I’m feeling extra fortunate today ’cause I found out my little brother might be following in my footsteps ’cause he’s thinking about some new career paths.

Amanda: What, he doesn’t want to be a doctor anymore?

Devon: No, he doesn’T. He’s thinking of getting into the music industry, which i would love, ’cause then I’d get to mentor him, show him the ropes.

Amanda: Devon, that is so cool.

Devon: I know, right?

Amanda: Yeah.

Devon: I think so. I’ve always secretly kind of hoped that he would gravitate toward the family business, want to be a part of it, you know? That’s where he belongs. You know, the winters part of hamilton-winters group. And neil would love it.

Nate: Whoa, elena, are you okay?

Elena: Yeah, I’m sorry. I just — I overreacted. I know you wouldn’t actually use your new position to change my schedule around.

Nate: Of course not. I was just kidding.

Elena: I know, I know, but some people might not take it that way. That’s why it makes me uncomfortable even joking about things like that. I just don’t want there to be even the slightest appearance of you giving me preferential treatment.

Nate: I understand. I will treat you like any other subordinate, okay? Listen to me, this isn’t gonna be a problem between us because we won’t let it.

Phyllis: What’s jack talking about? I mean, he has sisters. Has he forgotten he has sisters? They know him well.

Nick: You can argue that point with him. I am just the messenger.

Phyllis: Oh, well, I don’t think it’s a contest. I mean, I know you well. I know you very well. And you know me well.

Nick: Yeah. There are some things I know about you that the rest of the world —

Phyllis: La-la-la-la-la-la. I have employees. Just stop right there. Shh.

Nick: Get your mind out of the gutter. I’m talking about to the rest of the world, you seem like summer’s most fierce defender. But I have seen that incredible vulnerability that is just beneath all that toughness.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] Summer’s my only daughter. She has my heart, you know? Which means she also has the ability to break it.

Nick: Well, lucky for you, you know, you have me around to help you heal.

Ashland: Honestly? As rotten as I feel right now, i don’t regret going forward with the treatments for one minute ’cause if I can get a day or an hour or even one minute more with you, this has all been worth it.

Victoria: I was really hoping that you would feel that way because I want every second with you that I can get.

Ashland: You know, there’s another upside to sitting in that chair today. I was forced to turn off all of my devices, and I missed three calls from kyle abbott.

Victoria: Huh. Well, he must have been very determined to reach you.

Ashland: I think he’s anxious to discuss harrison’s future.

Victoria: He’s probably wondering what’s gonna happen now that tara’s facing prison time.

Ashland: Well, his plans to permanently move to milan has made any visitation or shared custody arrangements difficult.

Victoria: Why didn’t you call him back?

Ashland: I need to take the time to collect my thoughts. I got to consider what’s best for harrison and what I’m going to do.

Lily: Jack, you have to be reasonable. Kyle’s affair with tara is public knowledge. It’s out there for the world to see.

Jack: Oh, yes, thank you again for that, billy.

Billy: Oh, come on. What about the other dozen news outlets that ran the story, the social media platforms? The lockes have been in the news for years. Kyle knew that. He still chose to get involved.

Jack: Look, having an affair is one thing, and you two certainly got your mileage out of that story.

Billy: We followed the facts, jack. We told the story. Nothing salacious.

Jack: Now we’re talking about an innocent boy with an uncertain future. He needs protecting.

Billy: You don’t think those other news outlets are gonna follow this story?

Jack: I don’t think those other news outlets are run by my brother, an abbott, who grew up knowing that family comes first. What do you think dad would say right now?

Billy: You’re gonna bring dad up right now?

Jack: I am trying to remind you who you are and where you come from. Kyle and harrison have been through enough already. You need to do what’s best for them, what’s best for your family.

Victor 8/13/21

Moses and Faith went to the main house to swim. Victor welcomed the teens and told Nikki he’d be back. He had some unfinished business. Moses thanked Nikki for the drinks, though he was sure she had something more important to do. Nikki said she’d been pouring tea and lemonade for Faith her entire life. First, it was imaginary, for Faith and Miss Patsy, but now it was real liquid. Moses asked about Miss Patsy, and Faith tried to change the subject, but Nikki said she was Faith’s first friend, a doll. Faith was embarrassed, but Moses shared that he had a friend like that growing up – Reggie Beggie, a stuffed dinosaur in a football helmet. Faith teased that it wasn’t historically accurate. Nikki shared an anecdote about Miss Patsy, and Faith didn’t think Moses needed those details, but Moses was eager to hear more, so Nikki obliged.

Faith and Moses returned from their swim, and Nikki was eager to resume telling stories about Faith’s childhood. Faith realized she left her phone by the pool, so Moses went to get it. Faith thought Nikki may have scared Moses off with all those stories. Nikki didn’t think so. She wished Neil were here to see Faith and Moses having so much fun together. Faith said not to try and make this more than a friendship. Nikki asked if Faith was sure that was all it was – Moses was so cute. Nikki asked if Faith changed her mind about wanting to take the relationship to a deeper level. Faith admitted she still wanted that. Nikki understood Faith had a hard year right after her mother’s hard year. She assumed Faith was waiting for something bad to happen. She said it was okay to be happy and enjoy her time with Moses. Faith said thanks. Moses returned with the phone and teased that Faith got a text from Miss Patsy.

Ashland and Victori 8/13/21

Ashland was dozing on the couch when Victoria walked in with some food for him. He joked about what an attractive nurse he’d gotten this time, and she told him he made a great patient. He said that her shift was over – it was time for her to make sure their merged company was ready to take on the world, and it was time for him to do what was best for his son. He felt their company needed hands-on leadership, not delegating. She said she could handle his post-treatment nausea while prepping to put their company on the map. He appreciated her devotion, but he could handle this himself. In a light tone, she asked if he was trying to kick her out of her own house, and he said yes. He said it’d help his recuperation to see her all over the business news tomorrow morning. She couldn’t guarantee it’d happen tomorrow, but it would happen soon. She said he was an amusing companion, but very stubborn. He thanked her. She said she’d go to the office on the condition that he called if he needed her. He didn’t think he’d need to, but he promised he would. She knew he was weak physically, but he seemed stronger and more determined. He said that the anti-nausea medication was working, and the hours of doing chemo gave him time to think and plan. She assured him she supported him on Harrison, whatever he decided. She left.

Ashland called Kyle and left a message saying that he didn’t intend to play phone tag over something as important as his son. Decisions needed to be made. Ashland called Jack and left a message that he hadn’t been able to reach Kyle. Victor showed up. Ashland said Victoria wasn’t here. Victor knew – he was here to see Ashland. Ashland had been expecting this. “You don’t mind do you,” Victor asked as he helped himself to some of Ashland’s snack. Ashland told him to enjoy. Ashland knew Victor’s acceptance of the wedding plans went a bit too easy, but he welcomed the chance to discuss things further. Victor said the entire focus had been on what happened to Victoria if Ashland died shortly, and that was a concern to all of them. Victor wanted to know what would happen if Ashland happened to live. Ashland thought it was nice that Victor was thinking optimistically. Ashland said no one here thought he had a future. Victor said they were all vultures. Ashland said they’d come a long way, seeing as Victor was willing to let him die months ago. Victor said he just wanted Ashland to sign the contract – he actually wanted Ashland to live for decades. Ashland said the odds of him living an extra year were slim. Victor asked what would happen if Ashland lived longer. Ashland asked if Victor was worried about Victoria or the company. Victor said he never worried about Victoria. Victor noted that Ashland currently held an advisory role for Newman-Locke, but what if he fully recovered? Wouldn’t he want to expand on that role? Ashland thought Victor’s concern was valid, especially now that Victor’s family business was half the conglomerate. “Could you blame me if sharing control of the company were to cross my mind?,” Ashland asked.

Victor thought it was extraordinary what Victoria accomplished – merging the companies, and he thought she deserved her moment in the sun. Ashland agreed. Victor would hate to hear that Ashland took advantage of the situation. Ashland had no idea how that would even work. He said that he and Victoria made all their decisions together. Victor found it curious that, after the merger of what were arguably the most two powerful companies in the world, Ashland decided to seek treatment for his illness, then marry Victoria, in quick succession. Ashland said his situation didn’t allow for a lot of contemplation. Even in the best of times, he was known for his decisive actions. Victor thought it’d be fortuitous if Ashland recovered, then stepped in as the head of this empire. “Let me get this straight, you’re implying that I faked my illness in an attempt to put together this merger?,” Ashland asked. “I think you’re getting the drift,” Victor replied. Ashland laughed.

Ashland was flattered Victor thought he could be so diabolical and ruthless. Victor noted that Ashland never said this hypothesis was inaccurate. Ashland said that Victor’s instincts let him down this time. Ashland said he really was sick, and he couldn’t even dream up a scheme like this. He said that if the treatment didn’t work, Victor would get his proof. Ashland said that with Victor’s unreadable expression, he could never tell where he stood with him. “Knowing what you know about the situation with Victoria and me and this whole scenario, if I were to collapse on the floor right now, how much time would you wait to call 911?” Ashland asked. Victor smirked and shrugged.

Abby 8/13/21

Abby filmed a video diary entry for Chance at the Chancellor house. She told him that Mariah was gone, and Abby didn’t know where she or their baby were. She was so sorry. She felt like she let him down. She didn’t know if their baby was safe. She said she should’ve seen it coming – she was supposed to keep Mariah here to feel protected and cared for, and if she couldn’t do that, what kind of mother would she be. Abby was really hurting, and she was all alone, and two of the most important people in her life were unreachable. She dabbed at her tears. She didn’t understand Mariah’s texts, but she knew what Chance would do in this situation. She knew he’d hold her and reassure her that it wasn’t her fault, even though it partially was. He’d find a strength in her that she didn’t know she had, and she’d find the strength to get through this. She wasn’t going to sit here anymore and wait and worry – she wouldn’t let him or their baby down. She walked out of the house.

Nick and Sharon had a table on the Crimson Lights patio. He said he’d thought he’d earned cool-dad points from Faith for the concert, but then Moses showed up with some VIP stuff from Devon, and Nick went from cool dad to chaperone. He was sure Sharon heard all this from Faith. Distracted, Sharon said she had, though Faith’s version was a bit more pro-Moses. Nick picked up on Sharon’s distraction and asked about it. She told him that Mariah dropped out of contact. Mariah sporadically replied to Sharon’s texts and sent some of her own, but she never revealed where she was, and Sharon was just starting to think something was wrong. He asked if Tessa knew what was going on. Sharon said no one knew where Mariah was.

Nick understood why Mariah needed space – having your own baby was stressful enough, then add on the pressure of the surrogacy, and while Abby was great, she wasn’t low key. Sharon didn’t think Abby was the problem. At first, Sharon agreed with Nick that Mariah needed time to herself, but this whole thing was off. Sharon said yesterday, she, Tessa and Abby sent Mariah personal messages telling her how much they loved her and how much they wanted to help. Mariah replied “Stop pressuring me. I’ll be home when I’m ready. Your intervention is just making it worse. It’s time to back off.” Nick conceded that was harsh, but he said Mariah could be harsh at times. Sharon had considered that, but it still seemed strange. She didn’t want him to tell Faith, because she didn’t want her to worry. He said he wouldn’t. Rey walked in. Nick said let him know if he could do anything. He went into the restaurant.

Rey had struck out on the search for Mariah. He went beyond the app he used before, and used the GCPD’s most advanced technology. He finally got past the signal blocker, but he hit a secondary level of security – a scrambler that moved the signal all over. Sharon thought that sounded like something out of a movie. Rey said you needed a sophisticated understanding of cellular technology to pull this off. It was definitely the work of an expert. Sharon said Mariah definitely was not an expert. Rey agreed, but he said Mariah could’ve gotten someone to do it for her. Sharon noted that Mariah was friends with Kevin, and he’d know how to do it. Rey had already questioned Kevin about it, and it was clear that Kevin was genuinely worried for Mariah. Rey didn’t think Kevin would help Mariah hide from the people who cared about her. Sharon thought that was true – Kevin had a shady past, but he’d always had Mariah’s best interests at heart.

Rey 8/13/21

Sharon thought that Tessa might be right – and Mariah could’ve been kidnapped. Rey said not to get ahead of themselves. He asked if anyone had a reason to abduct Mariah. Sharon brought up Ian Ward. Rey remembered Sharon telling him about Ian before – the leader of the cult Mariah grew up in. Sharon said Ian was obsessed with Mariah and wanted to marry her. Rey said he’d check and make sure Ian was still in prison. He asked if this could be connected to the trouble Tessa got into. Sharon didn’t think there was anything left of that crime ring. Rey still wanted all the information Sharon had on them, just to make sure. He said he’d dig into Mariah’s bank account and credit cards. Sharon thought Rey needed a warrant or Paul’s permission. He said it was time to make this investigation official. Sharon had her suspicions for awhile, but hearing Rey say this made her really scared. He said if Mariah was in danger, he’d find her and bring her home. He left, and Sharon’s eyes filled with tears.

Abby came to Crimson Lights and asked Sharon what she thought of Mariah’s last text. Abby didn’t think it even sounded like Mariah. Sharon said it was sometimes hard to interpret tone in a text. She asked what Tessa thought. According to Abby, Tessa thought someone took Mariah. Tessa had gone to see her sister to figure out if Mariah’s disappearance was linked to Crystal’s past. Sharon repeated what Rey said to her. She said if Mariah was in trouble, Rey would find her. Abby said he had to. “Nothing can happen to Mariah and our baby,” Abby added. Abby called Tessa looking for an update and left a message. Rey showed up with the news that there was no activity on Mariah’s bank account or credit cards, and Mariah hadn’t made any calls from her phone, only texts. Abby pointed out that if Mariah was really doing this, she’d have to use her cards pay for the hotel and food. Sharon said Mariah would have to call someone at some point too. Abby said they had to face the facts that something bad happened to Mariah.

Victoria entered Crimson Lights, after Sharon and Abby had gone. Nick said that he’d heard she had news. She told him that she and Ashland were engaged. He made a comment about a whirlwind romance, and she asked if he disapproved. He noted that he never said that. She asked what he was saying. He didn’t think his opinion mattered. He asked if she was happy, and she said she was very happy. She’d be even happier if he’d share in this moment with her. He said he’d love to say how happy he was, but this was happening so fast, and not to be insensitive, but wasn’t Ashland dying? She said Ashland was undergoing a promising type of chemotherapy. “If it were really promising would you two be rushing into a wedding?,” he asked. She said they weren’t rushing. She was just hoping he’d be on board – even Victor was happy for her. “Seriously?,” he asked. She said she and Victor had a great long talk, and he was supportive, which meant the world to her. He was glad Victoria and Victor finally agreed on something. Victoria could tell Nick didn’t approve. He said he just loved her, and he’d reserve judgment until he had a talk with Ashland. She was glad to hear that because she wanted him to get to know Ashland. She thought they’d like each other. She just wanted the whole family to make Ashland feel welcome and accepted. He warned her that he planned to grill Ashland. She said it’d be fun watching Ashland hold his own.

Sharon 8/13/21

Victoria went home and asked what was going on. “Your father is just wondering if I faked my illness in order to conjure up the merger between Newman and Locke,” Ashland explained to the stunned Victoria. “Dad, how could you?,” she asked. She got ready to tell Victor off, but Ashland said he wasn’t upset. He was sure he’d have the same concerns if he were in Victor’s shoes. Victor said that they had to consider this, given Ashland’s reputation. Ashland said Victor’s intentions were honorable. He wasn’t insulted. He admitted that, as a young man, he may have actually contemplated doing something like this to gain control of a company. He gave his word that his sickness was real, as was his love for Victoria. He offered to share his medical records with Victor. He couldn’t show official documents on his love for Victoria, but he hoped his actions would show it. That was what Victor wanted to hear. He appreciated Ashland clearing up his doubts. Ashland looked over Victor’s shoulder at Victoria, who shook her head no. After Victor left, Victoria ranted about him. She said that the plan Victor laid out was something that Victor would actually do, and he thought other people’s minds worked like that too. According to Victoria, he’d always been that way. Ashland suggested Victoria stop letting Victor upset her and accept that he was never going to change. She asked if she was just supposed to put up with Victor’s behavior for the rest of time. He suggested they go do something to relax, like a walk around the lake. She liked that idea. Jack called, and Ashland told Victoria that he was going to discuss Harrison’s future. She asked what he decided.

Faith and Moses went to the park. She was sorry about her grandma telling embarrassing stories, but he didn’t think it was embarrassing for a little kid to play with dolls. She said she loved hearing about Reggie Beggie. He said she’d have to ask Devon and Lily what he was like when he was younger. He said her grandma meant well and liked that they were friends. She said Nikki thought they were more than friends. Faith admitted she wanted to be more than friends. She felt ready for more. She took his hand, and they kissed. Nick happened to walk up, and he asked what was going on here.

Victor went home and told Nikki that Victoria was upset with him, but Ashland seemed to understand. Nikki wished Victor told her what he was planning to do beforehand. He said he didn’t, because he knew Nikki would’ve told him not to do it. She said he was right. He was very unhappy about his relationship with Victoria – every time he said something, Victoria seemed to get upset. Nikki pointed out that he went behind Victoria’s back and interrogated her fiance. Victor said he did it out of love. He didn’t want Ashland taking advantage of Victoria – guys like him were sharks. He was worried that his relationship with Victoria would never be repaired. Nikki said perhaps the most loving thing Victor could do was step back and let Victoria fly.

Recap written by Christine

Devon ran into Elena at Crimson Lights. She was exhausted from working two consecutive trips. She guessed she shouldn’t complain – Nate had practically been sleeping at the hospital since his big promotion. Devon didn’t know about a promotion. Elena said that Nate was the new chief of surgery. Devon was confused because Abby’s ex, Ben got that job. Elena figured Devon misunderstood, because Nate got the job; today was his first day, and he was knocking himself out trying to get up to speed with everything. Devon asked Elena if it’d be weird for Nate to be her boss.

Elena never considered that before, and she appeared to be giving it some deep thought after Devon brought it up. Devon thought it’d be okay – Nate and Elena had worked together at the clinic, and their relationship seemed to be on track. Devon was sure that Elena and Nate would be able to figure out how to balance work and personal life.

At the penthouse, Moses congratulated Nate on his promotion. Nate said there would be a lot of changes in his life, and he wouldn’t be as available to him at the hospital or at AskMDNow. He knew Moses was questioning a career in medicine. Moses appreciated what Nate did for him. Nate was happy to talk with Nate and figure out what was best. At first, Moses thought it was just seeing Nate’s allergic reaction that bothered him, but now he thought it was more than that. Moses thought he’d dreamed of being a doctor, but after the opportunity Nate gave him to see the reality of what being a doctor was like, he realized that wasn’t what he wanted to do. Moses felt bad Nate went through all that trouble, but Nate said Moses was 16, and this was what he was supposed to be doing – figuring out what he wanted in life. Moses thought maybe the medicine thing was tied to losing his dad, and maybe the music thing was too. Nate gave Moses his full support no matter what he decided.

Devon came home and congratulated Nate on his promotion that he had to find out from Elena. Moses thought he might be able to do something at Hamilton Winter’s music division. Devon was happy about that idea. He remembered when Neil gave him similar advice about visualizing his goals. Devon told Moses that he’d set up an internship at the studio, but it wasn’t glamorous, it was hard work, though. Nate added that it wasn’t brain surgery, though. Devon and Moses teased Nate about his fame with AskMDNow. Nate and Devon gave Moses a pep talk about finding out what he needed to do in life.

Nate and Elena met at the park. He told her that Moses decided against medicine. Nate was a bit disappointed, because he loved the idea of mentoring his young cousin the way his mom did for him. But he honestly wanted Moses to find a happy fulfilling career, and he supported Moses. Elena got called into the hospital to assist with a surgery, and she sighed about having to go back in. He said he could shift some things around now that he was the boss, but she told him not to even joke about that. She apologized for overreacting. He said he was just kidding – he’d never use his position to change the schedule for her. She knew that, but some people might not take it that way. She didn’t want the slightest appearance of her getting preferential treatment. He promised to treat her like every other subordinate, and he said this wouldn’t be a problem between them because they wouldn’t let it be.

Amanda met Phyllis at the hotel. Phyllis was glad Amanda helped her break down the timeline of when Summer got the job. Amanda didn’t think she did much, but Phyllis gave Amanda credit for helping her uncover Tara and Sally’s scheme. Amanda was glad she could help, but she was sure it was bittersweet since Summer decided to stay in Milan. Phyllis said it didn’t feel like much of a victory. Amanda said that Phyllis saved Summer a lot of heartache, and that was something to celebrate. Amanda thought things were going well for everyone Phyllis cared about. Phyllis said that she knew Sally would be bad for Jack, so she was determined to keep them apart. Amanda thought Jack was lucky to have Phyllis. Phyllis said a lot of people were – she reunited Summer with the love of her life, uncovered Tara’s embezzlement, and she stopped Lauren from going into business with a crook. As an attorney, Amanda advised Phyllis not to tell anyone how she did that. As a friend, Amanda thought it was kick-ass. Phyllis thought Amanda had been kicking ass too, legally speaking. Amanda said she was trying to get justice for her father, Hilary and in some ways, her mother. Naya was Sutton’s first victim – he crushed her spirit decades ago and made her life about him and protecting his image.

Phyllis thought Nick would be mad she was meddling in the Tara/Sally thing, but he’d helped her by talking with Tara’s accountant. Amanda said Nick did it for Summer. She didn’t think Phyllis should see this as a blanket endorsement of meddling. Phyllis said she’d continue to protect people she loved, and Nick would continue to love her, even if it drove him crazy. Amanda thought it was amazing to be loved like that. Amanda shared that Devon was in love with her. Phyllis was so glad she’d talked Amanda out of leaving him. “I’m batting 1000,” Phyllis said. Amanda felt lucky – amazing man, found her family. She felt like this was more than she expected and maybe more than she deserved. Phyllis said she deserved all this.

Nick ran into Jack at the park and asked how he was doing with everything. Jack said he was still processing it. He mentioned he talked with Phyllis about everything. Jack was disappointed Kyle would be so far away, but he was happy Kyle and Summer finally had a chance after all the extremes Sally and Tara went through to keep them apart. Nick knew Jack had been hanging out with Sally again, but he’d heard from Phyllis that Sally and Jack didn’t get too deep this time before everything blew up. Jack admitted he’d found Sally’s fearlessness and willingness to take on the world to be attractive qualities – the same ones that made Sally her own worst enemy. Nick said Phyllis and Sally were a lot alike in that way. Jack said he never got too invested in Sally in no small part because of Phyllis. Nick said he’d told Phyllis to mind her own business. Jack did too, but it was clear now that she was right. He felt he owed Phyllis a debt of gratitude for opening his eyes about Sally. Nick said Phyllis knew Jack well. “Maybe better than anyone,” Jack replied.

Nick went to the hotel, and Phyllis said she told Amanda how amazing he was and how he helped her go after Tara and Sally. He asked if she loved him because he acknowledged when she was right. He said that was one of the reasons. Nick mentioned that he’d talked with Jack, who was grateful to Phyllis. Jack also said Phyllis might know him better than anyone on earth. Phyllis didn’t know what Jack was talking about – his sisters knew him well. Nick said he was just the messenger. Phyllis didn’t think it was a contest – she knew Nick well – very well, and he knew her well. He said he knew some things about her that others didn’t. She shushed him because the employees were in the area. He said to get her mind out of the gutter. He said she seemed like Summer’s most fierce defender, but he’d seen the vulnerability beneath. Phyllis said Summer was her only daughter, so she had Phyllis’s heart, which meant she also had the ability to break it. He said she had him around to help her heal it.

At their home, Victoria helped Ashland prepare for his treatment by making sure he was hydrated and had the ginger candies that the doctor recommended. She promised she’d go with him and keep him company. He said she didn’t need to go – he’d just be sitting in a chair with a needle in his arm. She said to at least let her drop him off and pick him up. He was okay with that as long as it didn’t interfere with the rest of her day. He wanted her to focus on the post-merger-transition and continue with the business of living. She intended to. She said she needed to tell a few people about their engagement.

Billy and Lily were at home, and their phones were blowing up because of the Tara Locke arrest. Billy said that they had a lot of work to do to make sure they covered the story thoroughly. He said this was the best part of the journalism game – tracking down all the facts. She said that his instincts about Tara were spot on. He said this was one time Phyllis’s meddling paid off. Lily thought Tara’s crimes were bad enough, but what was worse was using her own child to push Summer out of town. Billy talked about all the traffic that the Lockes were bringing in to ChancComm’s news platforms – they were the gift that kept giving. Victoria came over for her visit with the kids. Victoria thanked Billy and Lily for being there for the kids. It was a relief that she could count on them. Lily said they were all working together in the best interest of the children. Victoria had news she wanted to share with the kids, but first she wanted to tell Billy and Lily – she and Ashland were engaged.

Billy admitted he didn’t see this coming. Victoria said she didn’t either – Ashland surprised her. Billy approved of the relationship, but he asked if Victoria was sure. Victoria said yes – they loved each other. Lily reminded Billy that he’d said Victoria met her match in Ashland. Victoria said Ashland started treatment today. Billy assumed Victoria convinced him to do that, but Victoria said she and Ashland made this decision together. She had faith this would prolong his life, and she wanted to help him fight this. Lily thought this was very brave – she knew how scary it was to face cancer and your mortality. She hoped the treatment gave Victoria and Ashland the future they were dreaming of. Victoria said thanks. Victoria knew what Billy was thinking, and she said it was okay, and she appreciated that he cared enough to worry.

Victoria told the kids, off screen, then she came downstairs and talked to Billy. She said the kids were receptive. Johnny was a little sad because of Ashland’s illness, but Johnny took this as a sign that he might get better. He’d compared it to a video game where everyone won if they worked together. She said their kids seemed excited about the changes in their parents’ lives. Billy said ChancComm had to cover Tara’s arrest. He hoped he wouldn’t get push back from Ashland. He’d promised not to run stories on Ashland’s illness, but this was different. Victoria said Ashland had no interest in protecting Tara, but he didn’t want Harrison to find out about her arrest. Billy asked if Harrison would be living with Victoria and Ashland. Victoria didn’t know, everything had been moving so quickly, and Kyle’s move to Milan complicated things. Victoria hoped Billy didn’t plan to make Ashland look complicit in Tara’s crime, because if so, he’d have a problem with Victoria and Ashland. Billy thought that Ashland must’ve known what Tara was up and looked the other way. Victoria was positive that Ashland didn’t know anything about it and that this was all Tara. Victoria assumed that Tara was hiding money to create a safety net for herself in case the affair came out. Billy said if that were true, that meant the story was about his nephew’s affair and Harrison.

Jack went to ChancComm and asked Lily if they were going to run a story on Tara’s arrest. She said everyone else was, so why wouldn’t they? Billy came in. Lily knew Jack was worried because Tara was the mother of his grandson, but she was lead out of the Abbott house in handcuffs, and she’d been married to a very powerful man. They couldn’t ignore this story, Lily said. Billy said Lauren was lucky she found out before acquiring the company. Jack didn’t condone what Tara did, but he was concerned about Kyle and Harrison, and they’d become the story. He asked them not to cover this. Lily said the affair was public knowledge. Jack sarcastically thanked Billy for that. Billy said other news outlets ran the story too, and Kyle chose to get involved with public figures. Jack said an affair was one thing, but Harrison was an innocent child with an uncertain future, and he needed to be protected. Billy said other outlets would follow the story. Jack said the other outlets weren’t run by his brother, an Abbott who grew up knowing the importance of family. He asked what their father would say. Billy was taken aback that Jack would bring up John Abbott. Jack was trying to remind Billy who he was and where he came from. Jack stated that Kyle and Harrison had been through enough, and Billy needed to do what was best for his family.

Ashland came home and was feeling happy about his treatment, but then he winced and grabbed his chest and had to sit down. It passed, and he told Victoria that the doctors told him to be prepared for this – it just hit him so suddenly. He didn’t want it to interfere with her day, but she said she’d already planned to work from home. She said she could do her job while taking care of the people she loved who needed her.

Ashland felt rotten, but he didn’t regret the treatment – if he could get more time with her, it was worth it. She was glad he felt that way because she wanted as much time with him as she could get. He said another upside to the treatment was that he had to turn off his phone, and he’d missed three calls with Kyle. Ashland said Kyle’s decision to move made any visitation or shared custody difficult. Victoria suggested calling back, but Ashland wanted to spend some time thinking about what to do and what was best for Harrison.

Devon liked seeing Amanda smiling. They were at his place. She said she had a great morning with Phyllis and now she got alone time with Devon. She said she and Phyllis talked about the men in their lives and how lucky they were. Devon felt that he was the lucky one. Amanda said they were both lucky because they had each other. He felt extra fortunate because his little brother might follow in his footsteps. He liked the idea of mentoring Moses, and he’d always secretly hoped Moses would be part of the family business.

Jack: I suspect if I spent the rest of the day coming up with reasons you should feel better about this, I wouldn’t put a dent in it. So, let me ask you something — how does Nick feel about this? Is he as upset as you are, or is he already seeing a silver lining? Judging from that reaction, the two of you are not seeing eye to eye.

Phyllis: Mnh-mnh, we are not.

Jack: What does Nick say?

Phyllis: I’m not gonna tell you what he says, ’cause I have a feeling you’re gonna agree with him, and then you two will be right, and then I’ll be wrong. And I will not accept that.

Adam: Hey, Jack.

Jack: Adam, hello.

Phyllis: Long time no see, Adam.

Adam: Don’t tell me you missed me. Hey Jack, Chloe just hired Sally Spectra to start working at Newman Media. I know that you know her well. Am I making a mistake by letting Chloe run with the new hire?

Jack: Well —

Phyllis: I’ll answer that. Yes. A big mistake, gigantic one.

Adam: Any particular reason why?

Jack: It’s —

Phyllis: I’ll answer that. Yes. Because she and Tara Locke were partners in crime.

Adam: You don’t say.

Phyllis: That one is selfish, self-centered, and devious. While Tara Locke is rightfully facing charges, this one over here lands on her feet.

Adam: So, you’re saying you and Sally have a lot in common. Is that why you don’t like her?

Jack: You say you’re looking for a friend, well, look no further. You were the guiding force that figured out how sally and tara were working together to come between kyle and summer. I had my doubts all along. You were right from the start. Kudos to you.

Phyllis: Yay to me.

Jack: What’s wrong?

Phyllis: I raised my daughter to be a strong, independent woman, didn’t I? Yeah, I raised her to run from no fight, run from no challenge. I raised the kind of woman who would do whatever she wanted with whomever she wanted and be whatever she wanted.

Jack: All great qualities. What is the problem?

Phyllis: She took me up on it.

Chelsea: Connor says lacrosse camp is going well.

Adam: That kid is becoming a phenom on the field. Fast, strong, tough.

Chelsea: Just like his parents.

Adam: Yeah, before he left, i advised him that he should take this opportunity to improve his skills, and he really listened.

Chelsea: I hope you don’t think I put up too much of a fight when you wanted to bring him back from minnesota.

Adam: No, not at all. I realize it was hard for you, but you did the right thing, letting him come back here.

Chelsea: I was actually thinking it might be fun to visit him at camp, you know? See him in action.

Adam: Sure. He would love that.

Chelsea: Maybe you could take the day off and join us. Think about how much fun connor would have. I mean, we just haven’t had a chance to be together for him as a family, you know? We haven’t been able to be there for him like that in so long.

Adam: You’re right. He would love that. Um…I’ll check my calendar.

Chelsea: Or maybe we could make a weekend of it. You know, find something fun to do in the area, go to one of the restaurants by camp, or maybe we could take connor out of camp for a night and do a sleepover at a hotel.

Adam: Honestly, chelsea?

Chelsea: You don’t think it’s a good idea.

Adam: It’s not that, it’s just all this talk about family time. I’m curious — where do you see that going?

Sally: I was just saying the same thing to a friend new york. That all of the looks that are coming out of paris this season have, like, a certain…

Chloe: Je ne sais quoi.

[ Chuckles ]

Sally: Yes, precisely. No, I love the silhouettes and the playfulness, the colors, the textures.

Chloe: I just love that you come at everything from such an interesting angle. I mean, you’re fun, but serious. Audacious, but grounded.

Sally: Well, that’s me.

Chloe: And this is what i mean when I was talking about partnership benefiting both of us, because if you could put that all down in writing, you could occupy the top spot on newman media’s fashion site. I mean, I’m thinking maybe even a byline that reads “sally spectra, contributing expert.” I don’t know, something along those lines. And I don’t know, I mean, if things turn out the way they should, what do you think about being the face of the platform?

Sally: Ha, I would love it. I mean, I already have a million ideas.

Chloe: Good, I want to hear them all. So next, I think we just need to have lauren sign off on your side hustle, which I really don’t think will be a problem because jcv could really use the press and, I mean, not to mention, she’s family.

Sally: Uh, put — put your phone away, chloe.

Chloe: Why?

Sally: ‘Cause this would never work.

Rey: Hey.

Sharon: Oh, hi. I was just about to text you.

Rey: Yeah, are you looking for an update on tracking mariah’s location using her cellphone data?

Sharon: Yeah. Please tell me that you’ve had some good luck.

Rey: Oh. I know this isn’t what you want to hear, but I’ve been running into the same roadblocks that tessa has. I’ve been using more sophisticated software, but the results are the same.

Sharon: Is there something else we can do?

Rey: Well, there is one more thing I want to look into, but unfortunately, I can’t give you any information on mariah’s location right now. She could be anywhere.

Sharon: Look, I know you don’t like making guesses without a lot of facts, but you also have a lot of experience to draw on. And I probably know mariah better than anyone so that means I have no objectivity. What is your gut telling you? What do you think is going on with mariah?

Rey: I hate to say this, sharon, but sometimes people don’t want to be found.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ]

Devon: Hey, is that mariah?

Abby: I don’t know why I even keep trying. I wonder if she knows how worried we are about her or how much we miss her, how much we want her to come back home.

Devon: I think she has an idea.

Abby: I just — I want her to know how grateful I am to her and to you, too, and if space is what she needs, then, fine, i will move out of the chancellor house until the baby’s born. Mariah and tessa can have the whole place to themselves.

Devon: Abby, that’s not gonna be necessary. I’m sure when she comes back, she’s gonna be ready to be around everybody again.

Abby: I hope so. I just — I keep sending these texts to who knows where, and i hear nothing in response. It’s just — it’s all so hard.

[ Cellphone vibrates ] Do you think it could be…?

Devon: There’s one way to find out.

Abby: [ Sighs ] “Please stop. I need more time. You’re not making this any easier.”

[ Pounding on door ]

Mariah: You don’t scare me, you know.

Tessa: Mariah? Are you in there? It’s me.

Mariah: Tessa, oh, my god. Tessa?! Tessa, it’s me! I’m here!

[ Gasps ] I can’t get out. Somebody locked me in here, and I’ve been trapped here ever since.

Tessa: I’m here to get you out and take you home where you belong.

Mariah: Oh, I knew you would find me. The door — the door is locked.

Tessa: Stand back.

Mariah: What?

Tessa: Mariah, I mean it. Get away from the door.

Mariah: Okay. Um… I’m good. Just be careful.

Tessa: [ Grunts ]

Mariah: Are you okay?

Tessa: Yeah.

[ Hitting door ]

Mariah: Tessa. Oh, my god. Oh, my god.

[ Gasping ] Oh, my god. You don’t know how many times I’ve hoped and I’ve prayed for this moment, just so I could see your face.

Tessa: Oh, babe, you’re breaking my heart.

Mariah: How did you find me?

Tessa: I didn’T.

Mariah: What? What are you talking about? Of — of course you did. You’re right here.

Tessa: I want to be able to tell you and the baby how i saved you one day, but, honey, listen to me. This is important. I have no idea where you are and no idea why you left us in the first place. Everyone thinks you’ve deserted us.

Mariah: No, I would never —

Jack: Hey. I know how proud you are of your daughter.

Phyllis: Of course I’m proud. Of course I am. I mean, she got everything she wanted. She has a great job, her fiancé is by her side. She has an adorable little stepson. I just… I wish she had that here.

Jack: Yeah, I know that feeling.

Phyllis: Oh, it’s bad enough that daniel’s in savannah. I see him, like, never, ever.

[ Scoffs ] And the reason that I uncovered everything behind, you know, sally and tara’s scheme is because I wanted to pave the way for summer to come back home. But she didn’t want to come back home. She’s in another continent. I mean, I can’t really call her up now and say, on the spur of the moment, “hey, you want to go out for brunch? You want to go shopping?”

Jack: I do get this, but just pretend that summer got this job without sally pulling any strings. You had to be pretty excited when she got the job, even knowing it would take her out of town, right?

Phyllis: But I wasn’t, because I knew there was something shady going on, so I didn’t allow myself to get excited. So it’s like she was pulled over there for really no good reason.

Jack: No, a great job is a very good reason to move.

Phyllis: It’s a very good reason, jack, but it just —

[ Sighs ] I did all of this so she would come home. And she’s not coming home. She’s still [Scoffs] Like seven time zones away.

Jack: I suspect if I spent the rest of the day coming up with reasons you should feel better about this, I wouldn’t put a dent in it. So let me ask you something — how does nick feel about this? Is he as upset as you are, or is he already seeing a silver lining? Judging from that reaction, the two of you are not seeing eye to eye.

Phyllis: Mnh-mnh, we are not.

Jack: What does nick say?

Phyllis: I’m not gonna tell you what he says, ’cause I have a feeling you’re gonna agree with him, and then you two will be right, and then I’ll be wrong. And I will not accept that.

Chelsea: I let myself get carried away, didn’t I? Um…I’m sorry.

Adam: It’s okay.

Chelsea: I’m just excited to give connor all the things he missed out on last year when he was at boarding school.

Adam: So am I.

Chelsea: But if my suggestions are making you uncomfortable, we can scale back my ideas.

Adam: I think we need to take it a step at a time.

Chelsea: Not a problem. I think I’m just excited about my progress, you know? Every day is like a renewal. Every day is a chance to take another step forward.

Adam: Well, that’s a good way to look at it.

Chelsea: I mean, being out of the hospital is just liberating.

[ Exhales ] I’m finally realizing just how bad it got, and I just want to start to piece my life back together as best I can. So if it seems like I’m going overboard trying to, you know, get all the quality family time, it’s just because I feel ready, and that’s a really good feeling.

Adam: That’s nice to hear.

Chelsea: But?

Adam: I am glad that you’re being so positive. I think that that is great. But I’m worried that too much too soon might confuse connor about where things stand between us.

Chelsea: It’s never going back to the way things were, is it?

Adam: I think it’s just best that we say this out loud, chelsea. Too much has changed. We will always be connor’s parents, and he can always count on us working together and making his life as happy as possible, but we need to make our own paths forward now. Separately.

Chloe: Wait. Everything was going so great. Why put the brakes on all of a sudden? What’s the problem?

Sally: Me. I’m the problem, so why don’t you just save yourself a lot of heartache and have somebody else write for your site?

Chloe: Does this have something to do with what phyllis told me?

Sally: [ Sighs ] I just got so swept up in the idea of everything that i thought there could be a way to make this work, but there’s not. You’re gonna learn the truth eventually, and I’m sure lauren will relish in telling you why she fired me.

Chloe: Oh, uh, sorry, so you don’t work for jcv anymore?

Sally: That is the least of it.

Chloe: Well, it couldn’t be that bad. I mean, what, were you trying to bring back the poodle skirt or something?

Sally: Do you really want to know?

Chloe: Sure. I mean, listen, I’m gonna hear about it anyway, so you might as well tell me your end of the story.

Sally: Okay. Alright, here it is in all its glory — the tragic tale of the downfall of sally spectra.

[ Sighs ] Okay, right after I arrived from la trying to carve out a new fashion niche for myself, i learned that summer had gotten my dream job, while I became lauren’s assistant. And I was very grateful for the opportunity, don’t get me wrong, but I ran my own fashion house. I had my own lines. I have massive amounts of experience. And here I was, starting at the bottom again. So I bided my time, until i learned that ashland locke was giving his wife the boot, and i saw that our goals aligned. Summer had both the job that i wanted and the man that tara wanted, and I — together, we could make our dreams come true. So I asked eric forrester and asked him for a job recommendation, and long story short, one thing led to another, and boom, now summer is the creative director for angelina marchetti in milan.

Chloe: So how did you get her to take the job? I mean, aside from it being a bad-ass career move?

Sally: Well, tara told summer that if summer didn’t take the job, that she would make sure that kyle never saw his son again.

Chloe: Oh. Well, yeah, that’S…extreme.

Sally: And unfortunately, phyllis figured everything out and told everyone, so now kyle and summer are living happily ever after in italy, and I am out of a job. And now we can just part ways and you can pretend that you never met me. (Tonya) smoking damaged my heart.

Chloe: Maybe we should shift focus and talk about a deadline for your first piece.

Sally: Did you not hear everything I just said?

Chloe: I heard every word, very clearly. And I knew going in that you’re no saint. I mean, I didn’t know things had gotten that crazy.

Sally: So why are you still here?

Chloe: My best friend chelsea is trying to turn her life around, and I want that to happen for her. So your story resonates with me. But mainly, I used to be you, more or less. Things change. People change. I mean, now I have two gorgeous kids and a man who loves me, and the man I loathed more than anything on this earth gave me an incredible job with a lot of autonomy, free rein to do anything I want, and what I want is to have sally spectra’s byline on my site. So are we gonna get to work, or what?

Sally: [ Chuckles ]

Abby: I’m trying really hard not to be angry with mariah because she’s a good person and there has to be some logical reason why this happened.

Devon: Yeah, I — I really don’t know the right way to respond to this.

Abby: Well, empathy — empathy is what I want to feel. I mean, mariah wouldn’t be pregnant if it wasn’t for me, if I hadn’t asked her to carry the baby. And I just — I want to hug her and I want to tell her that i understand how difficult this is for her, and I am sorry for hovering, but, you know, you can’t hug someone through a text. I can’t make her feel how much I love her.

Devon: I know, but you’ve said that to her in person tons of times.

Abby: Which is part of the problem. I wouldn’t stop talking about it, and now she’s having to deal all of this by herself. And I don’t think she realizes that she’s making it more difficult. I mean, isolation is not the answer.

Devon: You’re absolutely right. And I don’t know what’s going through mariah’s mind. I know that you’ve shown more empathy than most people would in your situation right now. But you just have to try and remember to not worry so much about mariah that you forget to take care of yourself. Like you should delegate and have some of your staff handle the paperwork until she comes back home.

Abby: Yeah, yeah, you’re right. I can do that.

Devon: Yeah. Yeah, and you know what? Maybe you need to distract yourself, too. Why don’t you plan to go and hang out with nina or something?

Abby: Well, nina is in la. A film company hired her to work on a script.

Devon: Oh, really?

Abby: Yeah.

Devon: I figured she would be in town until chance came home.

Abby: I told her to go. I would hate if any of this interfered with her life or her career.

Devon: Well, you still have me. I’m not going anywhere. And hey, speaking of films, i have an idea. You should make another video for chance. It might make you feel better to focus on him like that, have that connection. I’ll be your camera man.

Abby: Yeah, I don’t know.

Devon: No? Was it something I said?

Abby: No, you always give the perfect advice. It’s just I haven’t been making those video diary entries recently.

Devon: Why haven’t you?

Abby: Because I’m afraid.

Devon: What are you afraid of?

Abby: Of what he’ll see. Is struggling to manage your type 2 diabetes

Devon: Hey. You never answered my question. What are you afraid of chance seeing in these videos?

Abby: Resentment. Do you remember how I talked to you about how I was feeling angry that I was having to deal with all of this by myself? You’re the only person that i can talk about that stuff with.

Devon: Okay, but you know that everything you’re feeling is completely normal.

Abby: Yeah, but it scares me to think about him coming home and watching the videos and seeing that.

Devon: Why is that scary? That’s your husband. That’s like the one person who you shouldn’t have to hide your feelings from, right?

Abby: Yeah, but he has a lot on his plate. He’s on a job that’s taken him away from everyone he loves. He’s putting his life in jeopardy every single day. And the last thing I would want is for him to come home and feel like I wasn’t giving him 110% of my support while he was away.

[ Sighs ]

[ Cellphone vibrates ] Sorry. What if this is —

Devon: Is it mariah?

Abby: No, it’s sharon. She’s with rey. They want to meet.

Devon: Okay. Alright, I’ll go with you.

Phyllis: You know, I came here to talk to a friend, not get the third degree, but you want to know how nick’s being? Yeah, he’s being great. Great, rational, reasonable. Terrific. Terrific about this entire thing.

Jack: You don’t say.

Phyllis: Yeah. He thinks it’s wonderful that our daughter is in italy having the time of her life at her dream job. He is so happy for her that she is thriving.

Jack: My god, what has gotten into him?

Phyllis: You know what? I don’t appreciate your sarcasm. I want to feel how you guys feel, but all I do is miss my daughter. I just miss my daughter, okay?

Jack: Okay, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to tease you. I will stop right now.

Phyllis: Thank you.

Jack: I do know how you feel. I love summer and kyle more than I can say, and I could not be happier that the two people i love so much are together right now. But it comes at a price.

Phyllis: I mean, you don’t have your co-ceo anymore.

Jack: I enjoyed every single minute watching my son grow into this competent, strong businessman.

Phyllis: And harrison. What about him?

Jack: Hopefully kyle and ashland will work out some way for harrison to spend time in milan with them, and that, of course, is time I won’t have watching my grandson grow up or watching my son become a father.

Phyllis: You know how I feel.

Jack: Yeah. You know what, though? We didn’t — we didn’t have kids to become clones of ourselves that never leave our side. There’s a cost we have to pay. It’s — it’s part of the package. And I mean, they’re not out of our lives, they’re out of the country.

Phyllis: Long plane ride away.

Jack: Yeah, a long plane ride away to really great brunch opportunities and good shopping.

Phyllis: Yeah. Yay. I know what you want me to say. You want me to say, “stop feeling sorry for yourself and be happy for your brilliant daughter.”

Jack: You think you’re gonna do that?

Phyllis: No.

Jack: No, I didn’t think so.

[ Both laugh ]

Phyllis: I’ll try to do that. You know, it’s just really hard. Thank you.

[ Sighs ] I need a drink. You want a drink? I’m paying.

Jack: If you’re buying, I’d love to have a drink.

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ]

Chloe: Hey, adam.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Don’t bother knocking. Come on in. Who do we have here?

Chloe: This is the person who will give our fashion platform instant credibility and set us apart from the rest — sally spectra.

Sally: Nice to meet you.

Adam: Sally spectra. Where have I heard that name before?

Sally: Well, I’m only slightly famous, but it’s mostly because of great-aunt, the original sally spectra, which lucky for you ’cause otherwise, you wouldn’t be able to afford me.

Adam: I know why you seem so familiar. You were dating jack abbott, weren’t you?

Sally: Yeah, but that’s in the past.

Adam: He’s a friend of mine.

Sally: Wow, everyone in this town really does know each other.

Chloe: Tell you what, give jack a call, he’ll give you all the dirt on sally. It won’t be pretty, but I don’t care because you told me I can hire whoever I want, and I am standing by my latest discovery.

Adam: It never crossed my mind to call jack, but now it sounds like maybe I should.

Chloe: Don’t forget, if we start holding people to unreasonable standards because of their questionable pasts, you and I are the first ones out the door.

Adam: [ Sighs, chuckles ] Fair enough. Sally…welcome aboard.

Certain hpv-related cancers?

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Chloe: Now, this is the perfect place to celebrate your new job. We’re gonna pop some bubbly and we’re gonna brainstorm.

Sally: Man, I really thought things were gonna go south whenever adam remembered that i used to date jack, because trust me, whatever negative things lauren has to say about me, they are not nearly as bad as what jack could tell you.

Chloe: And I am so glad that you were honest with me because now we can just start with a clean slate — no secrets, no skeletons. And I don’t really care what jack has to say because you already told me everything that I need to know.

Sally: Why are you so willing to take a chance on me?

Chloe: Because I have a really good feeling about you, a sense that this risk is really going to pay off.

Sally: You have no idea how good it feels to have someone actually believe in me.

Chloe: I mean, I know that you can’t just change overnight. I mean, that would be naive, but all I’m saying is just don’t bring whatever you’re getting into into work because I am very serious about this new venture, and I know adam. If you cross the line, then I’m gonna pay the price, so don’t even try it, because I am 10 times meaner than lauren.

Sally: You don’t have to worry about me at all. I learned my lesson. I just plan on keeping my head down and staying focused on my work.

Chloe: Then I think we’re gonna get along just fine.

Sally: [ Chuckles ]

Chloe: And I was serious about what I said before, about you being our on-camera personality. You know, there are some really big fashion shows coming up, so I’m thinking you can interview some designers, get some backstage exclusive footage.

Jack: This was a good idea.

Phyllis: Yeah, I’m filled with good ideas. You know that about me.

Jack: How could I have forgotten that?

Chloe: Sally? What do you think?

Sally: Sorry, we were talking about video.

Chloe: Close. We were talking about making you a star.

Sally: [ Chuckles ]

Rey: Thank you all for coming. I know that everyone here is anxious to find out the latest on the search for mariah.

Devon: What did you guys find out?

Rey: Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find out anything on her location. Even with using the department’s more sophisticated software, I’ve been running into the same problems that tessa has — a message that says mariah’s location has been turned off.

Abby: Okay, so what do we do now?

Tessa: We stop pretending that this isn’t as bad as it seems. It’s time to do more than just cross our fingers and hope mariah’s gonna come home on her own. Not everyone feels this as strongly as I do, I get that. But it’s one thing for mariah to want some time to herself, but to go to these extremes to be alone? Sorry, that’s not mariah. And everyone needs to acknowledge that — now.

If you have postmenopausal

osteoporosis

Sharon: Tessa, I know that you’re convinced that something more happened to mariah than we know about, and I’m not telling you that you’re wrong, but as rey said earlier, there’s just no proof.

Rey: Look, I understand why you want to hit the panic button, but I can’t do anything without a lead, and so far, we don’t have any. That’s why I called you all over here so I could see if there’s anything that I’m missing.

Tessa: I know in my heart that something’s off.

Abby: And there’s one thing i know for sure — if mariah knew how upset we all were, she’d be home in a flash if she could.

Sharon: I think abby’s right. Mariah loves her job. She takes it very seriously. She texted jack to say that she would be gone for a few days, and then no one at jabot has heard from her ever since. She missed a prenatal appointment after she said she would be home in time for it.

Tessa: She knows how dangerous that can be for her and the baby. And she knows how much she means to me.

Sharon: And the bottom line is, mariah may be upset, but she’s not cruel. She would never torture tessa or abby or any of us intentionally.

[ Laughter ]

Phyllis: Oh, my gosh, look at that. I warned chloe about that snake, and there she is, carrying on at the bar. They’re like besties.

Chloe: Cheers.

Sally: Cheers!

Jack: Maybe it’s business.

Phyllis: But sally’s unemployed, unless you know something I don’T.

Jack: Adam told me that newman media offered chloe a fashion platform. Maybe sally wants to be part of that.

Phyllis: Oh, my goodness.

[ Scoffs ] I wouldn’t put it past her. Seriously, lauren gives her the heave-ho, and here she is, worming her way into chloe’s life.

Jack: I am confident chloe can handle herself. Stop staring.

Phyllis: I can’t even believe this. What is she still doing here? I blew up her scheme sky high. She should be embarrassed. She should be leaving this town with her tail between her legs, not enjoying herself at the bar while my daughter is thousands of miles away. You know what I always say, right? You know what I always say.

Jack: No, I don’T.

Phyllis: Don’t get mad, get even. This is the sound of an asthma attack…

Chloe: So I’m envisioning our video content as a mix of in-studio segments where we’re showcasing new trends and keeping our users up-to-date on the latest fashion news and field coverage and maybe you’re out on the street, styling people and taking people into the headquarters of their favorite designers. I want all of your input, your wildest ideas.

Sally: You might regret saying that.

Chloe: I don’t want you to hold back, okay? We are starting this from scratch, and I know that you just had your wrist slapped, but I don’t want that to diminish your ambition because that is the engine will make this so special.

Sally: Okay, so you would be okay with sending me on a tour of every fashion capital on earth, traveling first class all the way?

Chloe: Okay, let’s maybe not get ahead of ourselves. After everything you just told me, I don’t think I need to explain that.

Sally: Yeah, sorry, I was just day-dreaming out loud. No, I’m all about keeping things on a budget and making you, my brand-new boss, look good because I have a lot to prove, and I do accept full blame for taking things way too far at fenmore’S. But that woman has been out to get me from the moment that we met, and even if I had done nothing, she would have found something to use against me. She’s trouble. And I will never forget it.

Adam: Hey, jack.

Jack: Adam, hello.

Phyllis: Long time no see, adam.

Adam: Don’t tell me you missed me. Hey, jack, chloe just hired sally spectra to start working at newman media.

Adam: So you’re saying you and sally have a lot in common. Is that why you don’t like her?

Mariah: You, boy, are gonna have the best baby book ever. It’s gonna be three pages at least dedicated to the time that you were kidnapped in utero, all the while, your surrogate had to find her way out of a seemingly impossible situation. So if you want to know what is going on out here, I am searching for something. Anything. A clue to why we’re here, where we are, and who put us here. So maybe we — that’s — that’s a camera. So is that you’ve been doing, you’ve been watching us? Have you been watching us?! How twisted are you?! Why am I here? What do you want? No, no, no, no, no. That’s it, okay? No more video. No more watching. Got it? There. How do you like that? If you want to know what’s going on in here, you can come out from hiding, you coward, and face me.

Sharon: Each of us has tried to get through to mariah, and so far, nothing has worked.

Abby: What do you think we should do?

Sharon: Some sort of digital intervention, just try to get her to understand how we feel being away from her, why we’re so concerned?

Tessa: But what if that doesn’t work?

Sharon: If our intervention isn’t enough to make her come home on her own, then I think that we need to turn up the heat on the search. No more crossing our fingers and waiting for an app to give us answers. No more being passive. If there are no leads, then we need to dig some up. You know, we haven’t yet looked at her credit card usage, her bank account activity, and i think we need to start doing that.

Tessa: Hallelujah. This is what I have wanted all along.

Abby: Sharon’s right. It’s time to bring mariah home, one way or another.

Recap written by Christine

You say you’re looking for a friend, well look no further. You were the guiding force who figured out how Sally and Tara were working together to come between Kyle and Summer,” Jack said to Phyllis, who was visiting the Abbott house. He gave her kudos, but she didn’t feel happy. She raised a strong and independent daughter who’d do whatever she wanted and be whatever she wanted. Jack thought those were great qualities, and he asked what the problem was. “She took me up on it,” Phyllis cried. Jack knew how proud Phyllis was of Summer. Phyllis said of course she was. She noted that Summer got everything she wanted. She had a great job, her fiance was by her side, and she had an adorable stepson. Phyllis wished Summer had that here in Genoa City. It was bad enough for Phyllis that her son Daniel was in Savannah, and she never saw him. She uncovered Sally and Tara’s scheme so she could pave the way for Summer’s return, but she didn’t want to come home. No more spur of the moment brunches or shopping trips. Jack suggested Phyllis pretend Summer got the job without any schemes. He assumed she was initially happy that Summer got the job, even thought it would take her out of town. Phyllis said she never allowed herself to be happy because she knew up front something shady was going on. Phyllis reiterated that she did this so Summer would come home, and she wasn’t coming home. Jack asked how Nick felt. Phyllis admitted they weren’t on the same page about this. Jack asked what Nick said. Phyllis declined to tell him because she was sure he’d agree with Nick, and they’d be right, and she’d be wrong.

Phyllis said she came to get support from a friend, not get the third degree. She grumbled that Nick was being terrific about this entire thing – he thought it was wonderful that Summer was in Italy, having the time of her life. “My God, what has gotten into him,” Jack replied. Phyllis tearfully yelled that she didn’t appreciate the sarcasm. She wanted to feel how Nick and Jack did, but she didn’t. She just missed her daughter. Jack was sorry for teasing Phyllis. He loved Summer and Kyle more than words could say, and he couldn’t be happier that they were together, but it came at a price. Phyllis said Jack lost his co-CEO. He enjoyed watching his son grow into a competent strong businessman. She asked about Harrison. He said hopefully Ashland and Kyle would work out a way for Harrison to spend time in Milan, and that was time that Jack would miss with his grandson, and he’d miss watching his son be a father. He said they didn’t have kids to become clones of themselves who stuck by their parents’ side. He said their kids weren’t out of their lives, just out of the country. She said she’d try to stop feeling sorry for herself and be happy for her brilliant daughter, but it was just really hard. She thanked him. She needed a drink, and she said she was buying.

At work, Adam video chatted Chelsea. He told her Connor was becoming a phenom on the field – fast, strong, tough. “Just like his parents,” she replied. She hoped he didn’t think she put up too much of a fight when he wanted to bring Connor home. He assured her he knew how hard it was for her, and he added that she did the right thing in the end. She was thinking of visiting Connor at lacrosse camp, and she suggested Adam come too so they could have family time. He said he’d check his calendar. She said maybe they could make a weekend of it, or take Connor for a sleepover at a hotel. In a guarded tone, he asked where she saw this going. Chelsea apologized. She said she was just excited to give Connor what he missed out on last year when he was away at school. Adam was too. She said if her suggestions made him uncomfortable, they could scale back. He wanted to take it a step at a time. She was just excited about her progress – every day was a chance to take another step forward. If it seemed like was going overboard, it was because she felt ready. He was glad she was positive, but he was worried too much too soon would confuse Connor about where things stood between his parents. “It’s never going back to the way things were, is it?,” she asked. He said too much had changed – they’d always be parents to Connor, but they needed to make their own separate paths forward now. She nodded.

Chloe and Sally hung out on the Crimson Lights patio and talked fashion. They’d clearly hit it off, and Chloe suggested that Sally could be the face of Newman Media’s fashion platform. Sally loved the idea, so Chloe said all they’d have to do was get Lauren to sign off on Sally’s side job. Chloe was sure Lauren wouldn’t mind, since she was family. Chloe started to call Lauren, but Sally stopped her. Chloe asked what the problem was. Sally said Sally was the problem. Chloe asked if this had something to do with what Phyllis said. Sally just got so swept up in the idea of everything, that she thought they could make it work, but they couldn’t. She was sure Chloe would find out the truth eventually, and Lauren would relish in sharing why she fired Sally.

Chloe was surprised Sally didn’t work for JCV anymore, but she was sure whatever Sally did couldn’t be that bad. She wanted to hear the story. Sally took a deep breath, and said this was the tragic tale of the downfall of Sally Spectra. explained that she arrived from LA and learned Summer got Sally’s dream job, while Sally became Lauren’s assistant. She was grateful for the opportunity, but she was overqualified for the job. She bided her time until she learned that she and Tara had goals that aligned. Summer had the job Sally wanted and the man Tara wanted. She reached out to Eric Forrester, and one thing lead to another, and now Summer was the creative director for Angelina Marchetti in Milan. Chloe asked how Sally got Summer to take the job. Sally explained how Tara used Harrison to force Summer to leave. Chloe thought that was extreme. Sally said unfortunately, Phyllis figured it out, and now Summer and Kyle were living happily ever after and Sally was out of a job.

Sally thought Chloe wouldn’t be interested anymore, but Chloe still wanted to work together. Sally asked why. Chloe knew going in that Sally was no saint, though she didn’t realize things got that crazy. Chloe said that her best friend, Chelsea, was trying to turn her life around. “But mainly, I used to be you, more or less,” Chloe admitted. Chloe said things changed, and people changed. She had two gorgeous kids, a man who loved her. “And the man I loathed more than anything on this planet gave me an incredible job with a lot of autonomy,” Chloe said. Chloe asked if they were going to get to work.

Chloe brought Sally to Adam’s office and introduced them. Adam tried to figure out where he’d heard that name before. Sally suggested he’d heard of her great aunt Sally Spectra. Adam actually recognized the name from Jack, a friend of his. Chloe said to call Jack, and he’d give Adam the dirt on Sally. Chloe noted that she had the autonomy to hire whoever she wanted. Adam said it never crossed his mind to call Jack before, but maybe he should. Chloe said if they started holding people to unreasonable standards because of their questionable pasts, Chloe and Adam would be the first ones out the door. He laughed and welcomed Sally to Newman Media.

Chloe and Sally went to Society to celebrate. Sally admitted she’d thought things were going to go south when Adam mentioned Jack, because whatever Lauren had to say about her, they wouldn’t compare to what Jack could say. Chloe was glad Sally was honest with her, because they could start clean slate. Chloe had a good feeling about Sally. Sally said it felt good for someone to believe in her. Chloe knew Sally couldn’t change overnight, but she said not to bring whatever she was getting into into work. Chloe was serious about this new venture, and she knew if Sally crossed the line, Chloe would pay the price with Adam. Chloe said she was ten times meaner than Lauren. Sally said she’d learned her lesson, and she planned to keep her head down and focus on her work. Chloe wanted Sally to be the platform’s on air personality – interview designers at upcoming fashion shows… Sally noticed Jack and Phyllis walk in. They didn’t notice her.

Phyllis finally did see Chloe and Sally laughing and talking, and she griped about Chloe ignoring her warning to stay away from that snake. Jack said it could be business. Phyllis said Sally was unemployed. Adam had told Jack that Newman Media offered Chloe a fashion platform. Phyllis said she wouldn’t put it past Sally to worm her way into Chloe’s life. Jack said to stop staring. Phyllis felt that Sally should’ve slunk out of town with her tail between her legs after Phyllis blew up her scheme. She railed about Sally enjoying herself at the bar while her daughter was thousands of miles away. She decided to get even.

Chloe tossed ideas at Sally for the platform. Chloe wanted all Sally’s wildest ideas. She knew Sally just got her wrist slapped, but she didn’t want to diminish her ambition. Sally suggested that Chloe send her to all the fashion capitals of the world, traveling first class all the way. Chloe didn’t think they should get ahead of themselves, and after everything Sally just told her, Chloe didn’t think she needed to explain. Sally was sorry, she was just daydreaming out loud. She was all about keeping things on a budget and making Chloe look good. She accepted the full blame for taking things too far at Fenmore’s, but she said Phyllis had been out to get her since they met, and even if Sally didn’t do anything, Phyllis would’ve found something to use against her. Sally said Phyllis was trouble, and she’d never forget it.

Adam showed up at Society and he stopped and greeted Jack, but not Phyllis. Phyllis greeted Adam coolly. Adam told Jack that Chloe hired Sally, and he asked if that was a mistake. Jack was about to say something, but Phyllis announced that she’d answer that. She told him it was a big mistake, because Sally and Tara were partners in crime. She said Sally was selfish, self centered and devious, and while Tara was facing charges, Sally landed on her feet. “So you’re saying you have a lot in common. Is that why you don’t like her?,” Adam asked, while Jack stifled a laugh.

Sharon was working at Crimson Lights. She was about to text Rey for an update on the search for Mariah when he walked in. Rey said he’d run into the same roadblocks as Tessa when he tried to use tracking data to locate Mariah’s phone. This happened even though the software he had access to was more sophisticated than the app Tessa used. There was one more thing he wanted to look into, but unfortunately, he couldn’t give her any info on Mariah’s location. She noted that he had a lot experience to draw on. She said she probably knew Mariah better than anyone, so she couldn’t be objective. She asked what his gut told him. He hated to say it, but sometimes people didn’t want to be found.

Abby was at Society doing paperwork. she texted Mariah an apology and asked her to come home. “I’m worried about you and our baby,” she added. Devon came up. Abby wondered if Mariah knew how worried they were and how much they missed her. Abby was even willing to move out of the Chancellor house until the baby was born to give Mariah space. Devon was sure that when Mariah came back, she’d be ready to be around everyone. Abby was struggling because her texts kept going unanswered. Just then, she received a text from “Mariah” asking the texts to stop because she needed more time.

Abby was trying really hard not to be angry with Mariah, because Mariah was a good person, and there had to be some logical reason why this happened. Abby wanted to feel empathy – Mariah wouldn’t be pregnant if it weren’t for Abby. Abby wanted to hug Mariah and make her feel loved, but she couldn’t do that through a text. Abby didn’t think Mariah isolating herself was the answer. Devon didn’t know what was going through Mariah’s head, but he thought Abby was showing more empathy than most people would. He didn’t want her to forget to take care of herself. He thought she should delegate some of this paperwork to her staff. He suggested she go hang out with Nina. Abby said Nina went to LA to work on a script. Abby had encouraged Nina to go. Devon suggested making another video for Chance. She admitted she hadn’t been making video diaries recently, because she was afraid of what Chance would see.

Abby didn’t want Chance to see resentment in her. She was angry that she was dealing with this by herself, and Devon was the only one she could talk to about it. He assured her her feelings were normal. The idea of Chance coming home and seeing that scared her. Devon said your spouse was the one person you shouldn’t have to hide your feelings from. Abby said that Chance had a lot on his plate – separated from those he loved, putting his life on the line. She didn’t want him to come home and feel like she wasn’t giving him 110% of her support while he was away. Sharon called Abby to Crimson Lights.

Tessa, Devon, and Abby arrived at Crimson Lights. Rey said he hadn’t gotten anywhere in the search. Tessa said it was time to do more than cross their fingers and hope Mariah would come home. Tessa understood that not everyone felt the way she did, but it wasn’t like Mariah to go to these extremes to be on her own, and she said it was time for everyone to acknowledge that. Sharon wasn’t saying Tessa was wrong, but, as Rey said, there was no proof. Rey said he couldn’t do anything without a lead, and he called them here to see if there was something he was missing. Tessa knew in her heart something was wrong. Abby said that Mariah knew how upset they were, she’d be home in a flash, if she could. Sharon agreed. She said Mariah texted Jack that she’d be gone for a few days, then no one from Jabot heard from her. She’d missed a prenatal appointment, after she said she’d be there. Tessa said Mariah knew how important that was for herself and the baby, and she’d never do this to Tessa. Sharon added that Mariah might be upset, but she wasn’t cruel – she’d never intentionally torture Tessa, Abby or any of them. Sharon thought they should do a digital intervention with Mariah. Tessa asked what if that didn’t help. Sharon said they’d have to turn up the heat on the search – they’d have to dig up leads, look at her credit card usage, banking activity. Tessa was glad because this was what she’d wanted all along. Abby also agreed with Sharon.

Mariah had a dream that Tessa showed up and broke the door down to rescue her. They shared a hug and kiss. Mariah said she’d hoped and prayed for this moment so she could see Tessa’s face. Mariah asked how Tessa found her. “I didn’t,” Tessa replied. Tessa stepped awaya from the confused Mariah. “Honey, listen to me. This is important. I have no idea where you are and no idea why you left us in the first place. Everyone thinks you deserted us,” she said. Mariah swore she’d never do that. Tessa disappeared, and Mariah woke up. Mariah tore the room apart while talking to Bowie. She promised that pages of his baby book would be dedicated to the time that he was kidnapped in utero while his surrogate had to find her way out of a seemingly impossible situation. Tears streamed down her face. She said she was looking for a clue or a sign. She noticed that the smoke detector was really a camera. “Have you been watching us? How twisted are you? Why am I here? What more do you want?,” she yelled. She put a towel over the camera and said if the person wanted to know what was going on, they could come out from hiding and face her.

Nick: Having seen Summer over there really seemed to have hit her stride, I had a feeling this might happen.

Phyllis didn’t. She’s heartbroken.

Nikki: Well, that’s natural. Mothers want their babies nearby. And she’s been used to seeing Summer every day since she’s been staying at the hotel.

Nick: Yeah, she just wanted to be close, you know? To — to be a part of those milestone moments, like a wedding, maybe some grandkids one day.

Nikki: I’m gonna need a moment to sit with that. I mean, I understand that. It’s bound to happen one of these days. It’s just very strange to think of you as a grandfather.

Nick: Yeah. And that would make you —

Nikki: No, no, no. Not talking about that.

Nick: [ Laughs ] Okay.

Chloe: That’s Sally Spectra.

Phyllis: Sally Spectra — oh, trust me, you don’t want to get involved with that one.

Kevin: Who is this person and why are you asking us to avoid her?

Phyllis: You were so kind warning me not to get involved in your mother’s blackmail scheme, so I am returning the favor. Okay? Um, trust me, you’ll thank me. And if you don’t believe me, just ask Lauren.

Phyllis: I saved Kyle and Jack. I saved them from their overly trusting ways. They bought into Tara’s whole thing of, “let’s be friends, let’s be family, let’s love each other.” [ Sighs ] I’m heroic.

Nick: So, cynicism and meddling are your superpowers?

Phyllis: Uh, and being right.

Sally: Lauren, please just hear me out.

Lauren: I feel like I’ve been listening to you for hours.

Sally: That’s not fair.

Lauren: You don’t know when to stop!

Sally: I don’t know what you think you know, but I would really like to clear up this misunderstanding.

Lauren: There is no misunderstanding. I know exactly what happened with Summer, and I have proof.

Sally: What proof could you possibly have?

Phyllis: Hey, is she still denying it?

Lauren: She is.

Sally: Please don’t listen to Phyllis’s nonsense.

Phyllis: Should we tell her what we heard?

Lauren: I think so.

Phyllis: Okay, let’s do that. Uh, Tara admitted that the two of you worked together to force my daughter out of town!

Sally: You “heard” that. From who?

Jack: From me.

Nick: Alright, now that it’s had some time to sink in, how you feeling about summer and kyle staying in milan?

Phyllis: Our daughter was doing great here. She was happy.

[ Sighs ] She was running jcv. She was successful. They were building their house, planning their wedding. I just don’t understand. I don’t get it, why she would want to stay in italy. I don’t understand why she wouldn’t want to come home.

Nick: I mean, summer’s young. She’s always had a sense of adventure.

Phyllis: Yeah, but this wasn’t an adventure. She was forced out by sally and tara because one wanted her man and the other one wanted her job.

Nick: Look, you came to our daughter’s rescue. You gave summer and kyle their futures back. It is an incredible gift. You want to know what else you gave summer? You lifted this threat that she was under and gave her her life back, so she can make her own decisions, and she’s doing that.

Phyllis: Yeah. You’re right. I did that.

[ Exhales sharply ] I saw lauren fire sally. And so I called summer and i told her — I told her that she had her job back. She wanted to stay in italy. You know, our daughter, she’s thousands of miles away.

Nick: I’m sorry this is so hard for you.

Phyllis: It’s just really difficult. I can’t imagine how jack feels. I mean, one minute he’s running jabot with kyle. That’s his dream, you know? Just like he did with his dad.

Nick: Kyle’s not quitting. He’s just relocating.

Phyllis: Yeah, but in italy. I mean, it’s not the same.

Nick: You got to let them work it out, you know? You’ve been an incredible friend to jack, and sally is the worst kind of trouble-maker. And thank god you exposed all her manipulations. Jack’s a big boy. You don’t have to appoint yourself champion in every circumstance.

Phyllis: I’m not doing that. I’m definitely not doing that. I just feel bad for him. It’s all — I feel bad for him. He’s my friend, and he’s had a really bad year. His mom died. His nephew was suing him. Now kyle’s gone. All that stuff with sally. And then with harrison, he loves harrison so much. I mean, if harrison goes off to italy, jack will be lost.

Jack: Hey! I hope you had a great nap. Aunt traci told me you had a great time at the children’s museum. So I have news for you. Your father is back in town, and he would like to visit you in a little bit. How’s that sound? Good?

Harrison: Yes.

Jack: I thought you’d like that. Listen, before he gets here, I was thinking maybe we could go over to the park, play some catch? You up to that? Okay. Well, you’re gonna be a very popular guy here for a while. I’m gonna squeeze in every minute with you I possibly can. Why don’t you go get your ball and your mitt, and we’ll head to the park?

[ Laughs ]

[ Sighs ]

Nikki: My goodness. You’ve taken my breath away.

Victoria: Oh, I know, that was my reaction, too, when I saw this engagement ring. Ashland surprised me with it earlier.

Nikki: Well, it’s lovely, but that’s not what I was referring to, as you well know.

Victor: Ashland, what’s the point of all this?

Victoria: You don’t have to answer that.

Ashland: No, it’s a fair question, given that everything’s happened so quickly. After all, the last we all got together, I had barely begun divorce proceedings.

Nikki: Indeed.

Ashland: And now that’s all been finalized, and your daughter and I are planning a wedding. A big, splashy one, at that.

Victor: Why now?

Ashland: It’s simple. We’re both making up for lost time. Both the time we missed out on by not meeting each other sooner and a long future that we may not experience together.

Victoria: That’s our other piece of news. Ashland has changed his mind. He’s gonna — he’s gonna fight his illness. He starts treatment very soon.

Nikki: Oh, that’s an option you’ve resisted.

Ashland: The odds of success aren’t that high, but even if there’s the slightest chance that I could enjoy a longer life with your daughter and spending a couple more years watching my son grow up, I’ll do whatever it takes to make that happen.

Victoria: We’re going into this with our eyes wide open.

Nikki: Well, it’s your decision to make. Nobody else can know what it’s like to be in your shoes.

Victor: Let me put it this way — I’m glad the two of you erefore, that’s what I’ll do because I work —

>>> This is a cbs news special report. I’m dana we’re coming on the air with breaking news. Andrew cuomo, governor of new york is announcing his resignation. Let’s listen in.

Government really needs to function today. Government needs to perform. It is a matter of life and death, government operations. And wasting energy on distractions is the last thing that state government should be doing, and I cannot be the cause of that. New york tough means new york loving, and i love new york, and i love you, and everything i have ever done has been motivated by that love, and i would never want to be unhelpful in any way. I think that, given the circumstances, the best way i can help now is if i step aside and let government get back to governing and, therefore, that’s what I’ll do because I work for you, and doing the right thing is doing the right thing for for you because, as we say, it’s not about me, it’s about we. Kathy hokum, my lieutenant government is smart and competent. This transition must be seamless. We have a lot going on. I’m very worried about the delta variant and so you should be but she can come up to speed quickly and my resignation will be effective in 14 days. So my team — (naming team ). — And the hundreds of dedicated administration officials, I want to say this, thank you. Thank you. And be prouD. We made new york state the progressive capital of the nation. No other state government accomplished more to help people, and that is what it’s all about. Just think about what we did. We passed marriage equality, creating a new civil right, legalized love for the lgbtq community, and generated a force of change that swept the nation. We passed the safe act years ago, the smartest gun safety law in the united states of america, and it banned the madness of assault weapons. We’ve saved countless lives with that law. $15 minimum wage, the highest minimum wage in the nation, lifting millions of families’ standard of living, putting more food on the table and clothes on their backs, and we led the nation in economic justice with that reform. We have managed every emergency mother nature could throw at us — fires, floods, hurricanes, superstorms and pandemics. We balanced the state budget and got it done on time, more than any other administration, because government should work and perform, free college tuition for struggling families. Nobody in this state will be denied their college dream because of their income. We have built new airptsd, rail — airports, rail, transit, roads across the state faster and better than before and, more than any state in the nation, the most of effective green economy program in the nation. We did more for black and latino families than any other administration. We did more for working families, for our union brothers and sisters, we did more to battle racism and antisemitism. Today so much to have the politics is just noise, just static, and that’s why people tune it out. What matters is actually improving people’s lives, and that’s what you did. You made this state a better state for the generations that follow, and that is undeniable, inarguable and true, even in these ugly, crazy times. I thank speaker karl carl heastie and others for their leadership. Let me say this on a personal note — in many ways, i see the world through the eyes of my daughters, kara, mariah and mckayla. They are 26 and 26, twins, and 23. And I have lived this experience with and through them. I have sat on the couch with them, hearing the ugly accusations for weeks. I have seen the look in their eyes and the expression on their faces, and it hurt. I want my three jewels to know this — my greatest goal is for them to have a better future than the generations of women before them. It is still, in many ways, a man’s world, it always has beeN. We have sexism that is culturallized and institutionalized. My daughters have more talent and natural gifts than i ever had. I want to make sure that society allows them to fly as high as their wings will carry theM. There should be no assumptions, no stereotypes, no limitations. I want them to know from the bottom of my heart that i never did and i never would intentionally disrespect a woman or treat any woman differently than I would want them treated, and that is the god’s honest truth. Your dad made mistakes, and he apologized, and he learned from it, and that’s what life is all about. And I know the political process is flawed, and I understand their cynicism and distrust and disappointment now, but don’t give it up because government is still the best vehicle for making positive social change. Lastly, I want to remind all new yorkers of an important lesson and one that I will carry with me for the rest of my life, and that’s what you new yorkers did in battling covid. The enemy landed in new york state. Covid launched the attack here. It came on planes from europe, and we had no ideA. It was an ambush, and it was up to new yorkers to fight bacK. We were on our own, and it was war. Numberses, doctors, essential workers became our frontline heroes. Hospitals became the battlegrounds. Streets were still, and sirens filled the city’s silence. Trailers carried the bodies of our fallen brothers and sisters. But you refused to give up, and you fought back, and you won, going from the highest infection rate in the nation to one of the lowest. No one thought we could do it, but you did it. You led the nation, and you showed the way forward. And how you did it is what’s most important. You did it together, not as black new yorkers or white new yorkers, not as lgbtq new yorkers or straight new yorkers or democrats or republicans or upstate or downstate or jewish, muslim, protestant or catholic new yorkers, but as one community, one family, the family of new york. You overcame the naysayers and the haters and the fear and the division, and you unified and you rose and you overcame and you saved lives, and that was powerful in its effect. It was beautiful to see, and it was an honor to leaD. Please remember that lesson. Hold it dear and hold it up high for this nation to see because it is new york state at her finest, creating her legacy, fulfilling her destiny, giving life and animation to the lady in the harbor, saying excelsior! We can be better, we canire, and proclaiming eplur bys onium, out of many one, unity, community, love, that is our founding premise. And our enduring promise. And that is the salvation of this nation that it so desperately needs to hear. Thank you for the honor of serving you. It has been the honor of my lifetime. God bless you.

That was governor andrew cuomo resigning effective in 14 days, his third term as governor. And this comes just one week after the attorney general’s report that he had harassed or tumped inappropriately eleven women based on those allegations and investigation. I want to bring in national correspondent jericka duncan who has been covering this story several months. She spoke with one of the accusers and women in this report. In hearing the governor and hearing his personal attorney before that, it seemed they were laying out a case for the governor, and then that changed.

It did. As you and I have been sitting here listening to the news conference, the headline, after listening to his attorney, was this is the governor fighting back. But the governor said, quote, my instinct is to fight, but in this case, it was different. He said that he loved new york, he loved new yorkers and, by showing his love, he didn’t want to waste the tax dollars, the time and knew it was best, he said, to step aside at this time. But it was very, very interesting, I think so many people, dana, who have been following this weren’t sure how this was going to go because we knew the governor laid out even friday, his attorney, same typical argument about holes in the report, questions they had. How are we supposed to fight and give evidence to the judiciary commity friday when we haven’t seen all the transcripts? So that’s what we heard in the first 45 minutes. Then the governor comes up, he says what he said. Interestingly enough, talked about the good things he’s done for the state, reminded people of the progress that the state has made, but also welcomed lieutenant governor but soon to be governor kathy hokum. Me sources say she is ready to step in. I think people knew this was a possibility. Clearly a reality the governor say he was stepping aside and the first female governor to take the role in new york state history.

Interestingly, he very specifically addressed the troopers’ allegations against her.

He did and maintained that he did not do anything appropriate with the women we spoke to compleestles in reporting with the albany times union, brittany commisso. But he apologized to the family, he apologized to the trooper and that he did not know, he said — he does not recall touching her in a way that made her feel uncomfortable. He does not recall putting the palm of his hand on her stomach as reported in the state attorney general’s report last week.

Ricky cleemen, your reaction to what we heard?

I think this is a sad day for new york state. No matter what, this is a hero who as fallen and his life is forever changed. He is someone who led this state in so many ways, particularly as we have seen in the fight against covid, albeit there are still flaws there. He is someone who championed the rights of women in ways that other politicians have never done, and the irony, the supreme irony, almost shakespearean, is that someone who has made it easier for women to be able to sue for sexual assault, to be able to go all the way back for those who were children who were sexually abused, and he is undone by allegations of sexual assault and sexual harassment. I do have to think that we give him much credit for resigning now, for resigning with grace, and for being conscious that this staying in office would be so bad for the state of new york, the people of the state, and for his daughters. I am very moved by his comments, but he has a lot to still face. There is a criminal case that may go forward against him, it may be one, there may be others, and he still has to deal with lawsuits for sexual harassment for a hostile work environment. His crises are not over.

Yeah, he may be stepping down, but, at this point, as you mentioned, there are other issues that he may face. We want to turn to senior white house correspondent ed o’keefe at the white housE. Ed, you have been speaking with lawmakers in albany, what are they sayinG.

Reporter: I spoke with a senator that said the governor was dealing with a biased jury, so this is a sigh of relief in albany. Another member was in tears because it’s been so intense for the state to deal with. Bottom line, he still has a legal fight ahead of him and his lawyer laid out a pretty detailed case to try to defend him in that regard. But the political fight is lower. People said if the 63 member new york state senate would hold a vote to remove the governor they would have done so. The governor understood the political fight was unsurmountable and this is a guy who does not like to lose. The deep-seated hatred or disgust for this governor among legislators, members of both parties, runs deep and the latest allegations were too much for them. They wanted to explore not only these recent allegations but concerns about the book deal he cut last year during the covid 19 outbreak. The concerns about deaths at nursing homes in this states and other issues that had gone over the course of his roughly ten and a half years in office. The other thing to watch for now, jericka mentioned kathy hochul, the lieutenant governor of new york. For the last eight years, she’s traveled the state, visits every 62 counties every year, but is in over her head, they argue, in terms of being able to lead this state. A watch in the next 14 days if the governor does anything to boost her because there’s concern she may not be ready for this. This is just somebody who has not involved because the governor has not allowed her to be involved. That could be an important thing to watch. As rikki said, an important fall for someone who was running for president, a close ally of this president and worked with him on infrastructure during the obama administration and leaving as a major democratic party scar.

The president calling for his resignation last weeK. Thank you very mucH. Our coverage will continue on our streaming network cbsn, your local news and tonight on the “cbs evening news.” This has been a crives special report, I’m dana jacobson in new york.

Nikki: So, how is phyllis handling the news about summer and kyle?

Nick: Honestly, not well. She was kind of blind-sided.

Nikki: Yeah, she probably assumed they’d be moving home.

Nikki: Anyway, I’m sure that phyllis will come around. I mean, she has to understand what an incredible opportunity this job is for summer.

Nick: She just needs some time to adjust, you know? Daniel’s in georgia, and noah’s in london. We got used to it.

Nikki: Yeah, eventually.

Nick: Eventually is right. Alright, I got to go. I’m gonna go and give christian a big hug.

Nikki: Give him an extra squeeze from me, will you?

Nick: Will do. Love you, ma.

Nikki: Love you.

Adam: Chloe just likes to mouth off. Makes her feel like less of a sell-out.

Victor: Son, I’m telling you, she’s dangerous. She shouldn’t be around here at all.

Adam: We both want connor here full-time, right? That means I have to find a way to keep chelsea here, too. Happy, occupied, and most importantly, out of trouble. So hiring her is a strategic move.

Victor: Trust me when I tell you, she will be distracting.

Adam: Don’t worry. My focus is where it should be — on newman media, turning it into a powerhouse, trying to take advantage of our competitors’ weaknesses.

Victor: I hope by that you’re talking about chanccomm, not newman/locke.

Adam: You made it clear that victoria and the family business are off limits.

Victor: And I mean it. Okay? This is an opportunity for you to improve your relationship with your sister, as you have mended fences with your brother nicholas.

Adam: Well, that’s gonna be easier for me than it will be for her. Victoria’s hostility runs pretty deep. Maybe you ought to have that conversation with her.

Victor: I am not gonna talk to her. She has so much on her plate right now. I’m not gonna bother her with it. I’m expecting you and your brother to be supportive of your sister.

Adam: Understood.

Chloe: Sorry, I’m late.

Kevin: No worries. I ordered your favorite.

Chloe: Oh, you’re my hero.

Kevin: How’s your day so far?

Chloe: Not going by fast enough.

Kevin: Adam being difficult?

Chloe: Just the opposite. He is so calm and cooperative, it’s unnerving. It’s like he’s this spider weaving this big, gorgeous web just to trap me in it. Or maybe I’m already trapped and I don’t know it yet.

Kevin: If I had my way…

Chloe: I wouldn’t have taken the job, I know.

Kevin: Well, if it makes you feel any better, I don’t think you’re his intended target. You’re the bait meant to lure chelsea back under his control.

Chloe: Well, I don’t like the idea of that, but, I mean, what other options does she have? Who’s gonna take a chance on her at this point?

Kevin: Does chelsea even want to go back to work? I thought she was still hanging with her mom in minnesota.

Chloe: It might take a while for her to get back into a creative head space. I mean, she’s recovering from a lot of emotional trauma, which is unfortunate, since it turns out creating a fashion platform by yourself is a lot less fun. Oh, my god.

Kevin: What?

Chloe: That’s sally spectra.

Phyllis: Sally spectra — oh, trust me, you don’t want to get involved with that one.

Kevin: Who is this person and why are you asking us to avoid her?

Phyllis: You were so kind warning me not to get involved in your mother’s blackmail scheme, so I am returning the favor. Okay? Um, trust me, you’ll thank me. And if you don’t believe me, just ask lauren.

Chloe: [ Scoffs ] My hygienist cleans with a round head.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Kevin: Who is this person phyllis apparently hates, and what does she have to do with lauren?

Chloe: Sally works at fenmore’S. She used to be a fashion designer in la — a damn good one, actually. She took over at jcv when summer newman moved to italy.

Kevin: Why would lauren give her a high-powered job if she didn’t like her?

Chloe: I don’t even know what phyllis is talking about because every time that lauren has mentioned sally to me, she’s had nothing but great things to say. I’m gonna go introduce myself.

Kevin: Da-da-da. Hang on. Hang on. Phyllis just compared this woman to gloria. What does that tell you?

Chloe: That phyllis is all about drama? You’re more than welcome to join me. You can keep an eye out for red flags.

Kevin: I have to get back to the station, but will you be careful?

Chloe: Aren’t I always?

Kevin: No.

Chloe: Hi. I am a fan of your work. I just wanted to introduce myself.

Sally: I saw you on the patio talking to phyllis, so obviously you’re friends. Did you come over here to give me a hard time?

Ashland: You know, now that I’m settled in at victoria’s house, I’d love for you to come and spend the night with us. We have a room for you if you want it. And guess who else might be there sometimes — your cousins johnny and katie. I think we should all get together and have some pizza, play some games, huh? Does that sound good? We’ll make that happen.

Jack: Sorry to interrupt. Mrs. Martinez asked me to tell you she has a fresh tray of cookies coming out of the oven.

Ashland: Well, you better get some while they’re warm, buddy. I’ll see you soon. I love you, son.

Harrison: I love you, father.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ] Okay. Go get some cookies.

Jack: Mrs. Martinez is waiting for you.

Ashland: [ Laughs ]

Jack: Hey, I didn’t mean to cut your time off. I —

Ashland: No, no, no, no. It’s fine. I’m glad we have a moment to — I wanted to let you know that my oncology specialist has arranged for me to start chemo. First infusion’s tomorrow at memorial.

Jack: Well, I wish you luck with that.

Ashland: Thank you. Probably going to need it. And I think it’s probably best that harrison continues to stay with you while I see how i tolerate the treatment.

Jack: He’s always welcome here. We’re happy to have him.

Ashland: Appreciate that, jack. And I owe so much credit to you and kyle for providing him with stability that he’s needed over these past few months.

Jack: It has been our pleasure.

Ashland: Why don’t you have your son get in touch with me when he gets back from europe, and we can talk about visitation schedule.

Jack: About that — I’m afraid kyle is not coming back.

Victor: Well, I hope I’m not intruding.

Victoria: No, not at all. I just didn’t expect to see you again so soon.

Victor: Yeah. Well, I heard ashland say something about visiting harrison, so I thought I’d catch you alone, you know?

Victoria: Do you have something that you want to say that you didn’t want ashland to hear?

Victor: No, no, no, no, no. I just want you to be able to speak freely. Are you still alright about your decision to become engaged to ashland? Feeling stressed in your skin?

Chloe: I used to work with phyllis — for about five minutes. I would not say that we’re friends. And, yes, she did mention that you two are not on the best of terms, but that’s neither here nor there. I just want to introduce myself because we’re actually in the same industry.

Sally: We are?

Chloe: I have a background as a stylist, designer, and editor, and now I’m launching a new fashion platform for newman media.

Sally: Wow. Sorry, I really didn’t mean to jump to conclusions. Please forgive me. Phyllis took a dig at me earlier, and it put me on edge. But never mind that. You were starting to introduce yourself.

Chloe: I’m chloe mitchell.

Sally: It is really nice to meet you, chloe. So, tell me more about this platform.

Chloe: Oh, well, I’m hoping to recruit chelsea lawson. We teamed up before when she was designing at jabot.

Sally: Yeah, I know her work. She’s a major talent.

Chloe: And I’m sure you know about her recent breakdown, since it’s all over the news.

Sally: Yeah, I hope she’s doing well.

Chloe: She’s resilient and incredibly strong. I have no doubt that she will make a full recovery soon.

Sally: Well, it sounds like you’re a good friend.

Chloe: I think we all deserve second chances.

Sally: I couldn’t agree more.

Victoria: This visit is throwing me a little.

Victor: Why’s that?

Victoria: Well, at lunch, you were behind my engagement to ashland, but now you show up here, you’re questioning my decision.

Victor: No, sweetheart, I’m not. You know that I respect ashland locke, and I don’t say that kind of thing lightly.

Victoria: I’m hearing a “but.”

Victor: You know he’s in a dire situation, my darling. Treatment or no treatment, he has a rough road ahead of him.

Victoria: One that I don’t want him to walk alone.

Victor: So you’re doing this out of pity?

Victoria: No, don’t twist my words. Ashland knows the difference, whether or not you do. If pity were enough for him, if that’s all he wanted, he would have reconciled with his wife because she was willing. Ashland and I are together because we know that’s where we belong for as little or as much time as we have.

Victor: [ Sighs ]

Jack: Since we last spoke, I’ve had a chance to talk to summer and kyle. She does not want to leave her position with angelina marchetti, and my son does not want to leave his fiancéE.

Ashland: That complicates things.

Jack: Tara put them through quite a lot.

Ashland: Well, I can imagine kyle’s gonna have his work cut out for him making it up to summer. And I know she wasn’t too keen on the idea of helping him raise harrison in the first place.

Jack: No, no, that is not the case. No, that was her cover story to get out of town when tara was pushing her to do so. No, summer and kyle would love to have harrison stay with them in milan, if you would allow it.

Ashland: A few hours ago, you were emphasizing the importance of not uprooting the boy, and now you’re asking me to send him across the ocean to live with a couple of kids who have no experience in parenting?

Jack: I think it is very important that kyle and harrison continue to build the bond between them, especially with tara somewhat out of the picture and you, of course, are going to be focusing all your time and energy on your treatment.

Ashland: I agree, but that’s why I was going to allow kyle visitation. But apparently your son has other priorities.

Kevin: We need to get something straight.

Adam: Just checking my calendar. Nope. You’re not on it.

Kevin: I tried to stay out of this, but I can’t any longer. I’m not gonna let this slide.

Adam: What are you talking about?

Kevin: You’re being too nice to my wife. Why new woolite?

Adam: Well, I can’t remember the last time someone complained about me being nice.

Kevin: I don’t buy this reformed act of yours. Neither does chloe. The more you try and sell it, the more convinced we are that you’re hiding something.

Adam: Well, I mean, that’s understandable, given our history.

Kevin: Really? That’s all you have to say?

Adam: [ Sighs ] Look, if this is giving you this much anxiety, maybe chloe should go work for somebody else.

Kevin: Trust me, there’s nothing I would like better, but she’s determined to help chelsea rebuild her life.

Adam: That makes two of us.

Kevin: I find that hard to believe after everything chelsea put you through. But hey, whatever. I could care less about what you and chelsea do to each other from here on out. I came here to put you on notice. If chloe gets caught in the crossfire, there will be hell to pay.

Adam: Noted. And for what it’s worth, i admire how protective you are of your family. You know, if I would’ve stood by chelsea with the same devotion, who knows how things might have turned out?

Kevin: They would’ve been screwed no matter what because the real adam always comes out in the end.

Adam: Alright, kevin, I think we’re done.

Kevin: You’ve got a lot of people fooled. Maybe even yourself. But I know who and what you are and always will be. Just a matter of time before that guy shows up again.

Chloe: Your athletic line for forrester — I mean, it was killer.

Sally: Thank you. I’m flattered.

Chloe: And as long as I’m singing your praises, congratulations on your big promotion at jcv. I knew that when lauren hired you as her assistant, it would only be a matter of time before you got moved up.

Sally: Lauren, you know her?

Chloe: The love of my life, kevin fisher, is her husband’s brother.

Sally: Gotcha.

Chloe: A bit convoluted, i guess.

Sally: No, no, no. Not at all. I, um — I love lauren. She did not have to take a chance on me, and she did and i will be forever grateful. She’s just been a fabulous mentor.

Chloe: You know, it’s really funny that we haven’t run into each other until now. Maybe it’s perfect timing.

Sally: Oh?

Chloe: Well, jcv could use some positive press, and my new platform is looking for content, so maybe we could help each other out.

Sally: That would be great.

Phyllis: Hey. Is this a bad time?

Jack: No, no, come on in.

Phyllis: Hello, ashland.

Ashland: Well, phyllis. I understand you had a hand in exposing tara’s machiavellian plot.

Phyllis: Well, I hope you won’t hold it against me.

Ashland: Someone had to do it. We’ll talk later.

Phyllis: Someone had to do it? Did I interrupt something?

Jack: Don’t take this the wrong way, but whenever there’s a problem, you have this habit of wanting to go all in to fix it. Please don’T. I can handle this on my own.

Phyllis: Okay. Nick said the same thing, that you don’t need my help.

Jack: Okay. Well, if that’s so, why are you here?

Phyllis: I need a friend.

Victor: I’m not questioning you. I’m not questioning your decision. I meant what I said about ashland. I have respect for him. And I must say, you’ve finally met a man who’s worthy of you. But I also know you. You’re like your mother. You love deeply. That means you’re setting yourself up for potential heartache. And I’ve been through that with you before. I’ve comforted you before, right?

Victoria: Dad, I’m gonna be alright. No matter what. I don’t want to lose ashland, and if I do, I’m sure that i will be devastated. But at least I won’t have any regrets. Because we won’t have wasted any time, and I plan to make all of our memories very beautiful and meaningful so that when i look back one day, I will just remember how happy we were. Dad, I know I’ve been in love before — I know that — but not like this.

Victor: Okay. Well, then let me do something for you. Ashland mentioned something about a big wedding. So let me plan that for you, with the help of your mother.

Victoria: Why?

Victor: You’re my daughter. I adore you.

Victoria: I don’t know what to say.

Victor: I just want you to know that when I appointed you ceo of newman enterprises, i knew you could handle it. But now there’s this merger, along with it goes enormous responsibility. As if it that wasn’t enough, you now have to see ashland through probably the most difficult phase of his life. Don’t you have enough on your plate?

Victoria: Yes, I do. And weddings, they do take — they take a long time to plan.

Victor: They do. I remember my weddings to your mother.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ]

Victor: They were huge, you know? And I bet yours is gonna be very similar. So why don’t you let me handle it, along with your mother? I won’t do it alone. Do we have a deal?

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Yes. Just call me nancy.
