One of the best parts about our boarding school in france is so much is just an hour away — london, berlin, geneva. What’s a really cool place that’s an hour away from here? I’m open to anything. Nikolas, that’s amazing, amazing, but not benevolent, since it was nikolas who threatened to withhold that pardon if I didn’t do his bidding. You know, I was just about to bet esme that you show up at least an hour late for work. Of course I’m on time. I understand how this job works. I don’t know why you always think the worst of me. Because you keep on giving me reasons to. Like the time you disappeared halfway through your first shift. Okay, so the main thing is, you’re here. Talk to me. What happened with your dad? I’ll get to that in a minute. Why were you guys talking about cabo when I came in? For our weekend getaway, cam and I were discussing possible destinations. You and cam — when did that happen? That’s not what we were talking about, and you know it. I still think it’s a great idea. A weekend away for you and me and cam and joss and maybe trina and…somebody. I want to get to know all your friends, and what better way to do that than a mini vacay. We can rent a cabin with three bedrooms — or four if cam and joss want separate rooms. This weekend getaway, you and joss are on board with this? Yeah, sure. I mean, as long as it’s not too pricey. That’s why I think that joss’ family’s cabin is still our best bet. It’s free.

I wasn’t there, but I can tell you what the others said. Yeah, please tell me. All information is welcome. Peter ordered the head guard russel to kill valentin and victor cassadine. And then you showed up and you shot russel. I shot russel? I kind of wish I remembered that. Well, you shot him in the leg, and he survived. Okay, good to know. And then you and valentin took off, and you guys were headed to a dock and you had to cross this footbridge, and anna devane and robert scorpio were waiting. They saw peter ambush you. Peter shot valentin. You turned back to give cover fire, and then peter shot you point blank three times. You fell off the bridge into the sea. The only bullet wound I got is — is a graze on my arm. Peter must have given you a bulletproof vest. So he staged the whole thing. Why would he do that? Because peter still needs you for something.

I know the trust among the families has been difficult to maintain, especially since I was away and everybody thought I was dead, so that pretty much proves that. If you hadn’t warned carly and jason, I would have lost the two people who are closest to me, so I just want you to know that you are very much a trusted ally. Novak and buscema saw your presumed death as an opportunity for us to start working together as a group. I was tired of their greed upsetting our very delicate balance. I don’t revel in anyone’s death, but I’m happy they’re no longer here to cause trouble. And as I understand it, joey novak is in the hospital after almost being beaten to death. So the way you’re talking, you had nothing to do with that beating? No, we did not. So I went to go visit… joey in the hospital. He wants out of the family business. So the corinthos organization is gonna take over the holdings. I thought that might be the situation.

[ Laughs ] Yeah. And I thought it would only be fair if I gave you half of novak’s assets. I will happily accept your generous offer, though I want to be clear — that’s not why I asked to meet you today. My nephew’s parole hearing is coming up, and I was hoping you could convince the board to grant him parole. What’s your nephew’s name? Brad cooper. Nikolas was the one who had hayden shot. Yes, that’s shawn’s theory. Of course, there is no proof to back that up. And as a reminder, hayden is still very much alive. But what scares me the most is the possibility of waking up the next time and finding out that I actually took an innocent life. There’s a way to make sure that doesn’t happen. I’m listening. [ Chuckles ] Not really. It’s refreshing to see sonny in business mode. It’s like having a visit from the sonny I used to know. A visit? Nixon falls did a number on sonny. Well, to be more accurate, it did a number on us. And, well, I mean, you know sonny and i have never been the picture of domestic bliss. That’s true. But it didn’t matter because we knew each other so well. Now we know each other less. Nine months less. Thanks to nina reeves. Sonny: I forgot that brad was related to your family. He’s my brother’s son. But then he was adopted by the coopers. Still, he’s my family. You got to understand something, brad stole my grandson, and I watched my son grieve for a year over his son, who was alive. I know that, and I’m very sorry. So is brad. I visited him in prison, and he swore it wasn’t his idea. He was grief-stricken by the death of the real baby he and his husband, lucas, had adopted. Brad made some horrible decisions, and he’s paid a high price and he deeply regrets his actions. But he’s my family. He’s been in pentonville for 18 months, and he won’t survive much longer. Can you find it in your heart to help? As a personal favor to me?

Alexis, I am getting you out of here. I did a good thing. I don’t appreciate the way that you did it. Bottom line is my tactics get results.

[ Sighs ] “The end justifies the means.” That’s so very cassadine of you. I’m so sick of everyone saying it’s a curse to be a cassadine. Even spencer just declared he wants nothing to do with me.

Diane: You know, I have to admit, when I found out that nina reeves knew where sonny was all along and lied about it, I was waiting for a call from the pcpd to go down and defend you on assault charges. [ Both laugh ] But I’m glad I didn’t have to. Why should you endure another bout with the legal system courtesy of nina reeves, especially after all she’s done to you? But I will congratulate you on a rare display of forbearance. Oh, don’t give me the credit. I would gladly attack nina physically, financially, any damn way I could. Sonny doesn’t want me to. That’s too bad because I could file one hell of a lawsuit. When I was done, that spoiled little brat of an heiress wouldn’t have a dime to her name. Sonny doesn’t want to dwell on the past or on making nina pay. You know, I could file a lawsuit on behalf of you and your children, base the damages on your pain, your suffering. Leave sonny out of it entirely. It’s not gonna happen. Because sonny doesn’t want it to. That is not like him at all. I know! That’s what makes this so hard. Sonny wants me to leave nina alone, and I agreed. I mean, of course I agreed. What am I gonna do? Sonny thinks this is the best way for us to move forward. And who knows? Maybe for him, it is. But not for you. Hell no. Mnh-mnh. Hell no. Not for me. Well, I hope you’re right. I hope one of us gets the chance to kill the bastard, but at the moment, it doesn’t seem all that feasible. Peter’s already made mistakes, and he’s made another one by leaving us alone in here together. How’s that a mistake? We’re both chained to the wall and he knows that he can control me. What if he’s wrong? If you’re gonna tell me to fight the conditioning, obrecht already told me that, alright? She told me to focus on scout. And you’d think that that would help — me thinking about my little girl would give me strength to fight back, but obviously that didn’t work. Me being here is proof of that. You said the last time peter activated your conditioning, you were in your cell at the compound, right? Yeah. Right, so the conditions worked in peter’s favor. You were isolated. You had no way to fight back. You had nobody to help you. It’s different now. Okay? We’re — we’re here together. We’re in this wine cellar with more ways to improvise. More things could go wrong. You get hammered and you confess to him every vicious scheme you have concocted for torturing nina, and you let him talk you off a ledge. Nina took that away from me, too. Tell me. If sonny hadn’t come back home, jason and I were gonna be together as husband and wife that night. Mm-hmm. Sonny’s having a hard time with that. Doesn’t matter that we thought he was dead. It doesn’t matter that we had just said our wedding vows. I mean, to sonny, it’s his wife and his best friend. So it’s gonna take a little bit of time for sonny, so I don’t have jason the way I used to have him. I don’t have my best friend to run to and to dump all my problems on. I can’t go to him and say all the horrible things that I want to say and feel safe because… I just can’T. So for the sake of my marriage, I have to put my friendship with jason on hold. Does jason know this?

[ Sighs ] I mean, we haven’t talked about it, but I’m pretty sure that’s the reason he left town. One of the reasons. I know that he wants to help britt find her mother, of course, but I’m pretty sure he’s giving me and sonny some space. Based on my considerable experience with sonny, that seems the best course. Doesn’t make it any easier. No. I won’t help brad, but if he’s granted parole on his own merits, I won’t stop it. And what of your son michael? Well, he has every right to talk about what brad did to him and wiley. Michael can do more than speak at the hearing. He’s a quartermaine. He has powerful connections. He could pull strings and block brad’s parole altogether. I will make sure no strings are pulled, for or against. Even if parole is granted, it won’t mean much if my nephew meets with some kind of fatal accident after he’s freed. I give you my word that I will not retaliate against…brad, but… he has to stay away from michael and wiley. That seems more than reasonable. But you aren’t the only corinthos who might wish brad ill. So are you speaking only for yourself or as the head of the entire family?

That was another client of mine who needs to be bailed out, quite literally.

[ Chuckles ] Will you please tell sonny that I will call and reschedule? I will. I’m obviously not jason, but any time you need to vent, I am here. Friend to friend. Think I might take you up on that. Please know I mean no disrespect, but there were a lot of changes in your organization over the past year, so I just want to be clear about what your favor entails. Look, I just wanted to actually say thank you. I may not always agree with your methods, but I am really grateful that you were able to get my mother out of prison. Scout and danny are gonna be beyond thrilled to have their grandmother home. I appreciate you saying that. I’m just so happy for you, alexis. Ms. Davis, your release has been fully processed. Trina: I’m dying to show you these new photos. I mean, I swear, I don’t know how this photographer does it. I don’t know how he has the time or the energy. I’m sure he gets some of his energy from a healthy breakfast. Oh, my god! I forgot we were meeting for breakfast. I’m so, so sorry.

Since the last time I saw you and we had that conversation about nikolas… hiding his involvement into hayden’s shooting. Yes. Yeah, I went to spencer, and I told him his father had arranged the attempt on hayden’s life. Then spencer took the bait and went straight to his father. And then I had spinelli record the conversation. I find it really hard to believe that nikolas would come clean about what he did to hayden. Well, not in so many words, but there was so much evasion and damage control, it was clear to spencer that his father was guilty. And how did spencer take it? He was crushed. What about nikolas? Nikolas covered all his bases. Even hayden knew what he did. You know, he paid her off. So I am going to use this money and do the right thing. We feel that, at least for the time being, avery is — is much safer with us. Well, avery — she’s safe where she’s at, at home. Well, now, she has more than one home — you know that. Yeah, well, instead of trying to get more time with avery, maybe you should find a family counselor with spencer. That way, all three of you can have a little more peace. Come on, let’s get out of here. Dear god. The hypocrisy is staggering.

[ Sighs lightly ] The police are going to want to talk to you at some point. Your pain meds should kick in soon. And I will be back to check in on you in just a little while, okay?

[ Door opens ] Okay, whoever went after joey sure moves fast, because I barely got home from the savoy and dante was knocking on my door, ready to ask me questions. That’s alright. He’s gonna want to talk to you. Listen, I expected it, alright? But I g– I’m — before I do anything else, I need to see joey. Okay. Portia: Carly. Sonny. Hi. Hey. Portia, how are you? Curtis told me what happened at the club last night. Are you doing alright after the incident? Yes, I’m fine. Thank you. Good. [ Breathes deeply ] So, um, are you here about mr. Novak? I miss being at home with them around a dinner table, with all my girls — fighting and me disapproving of kristina’s life choices just so she could throw prison in my face. Yeah. You know, I turn on the music, whip up a couple of meals for tj and molly, who barely gets to eat them. Mm, what do you make? I could tell you, but given what you’re probably eating here, it would be a cruel and unusual punishment.

[ Chuckles ] No, seriously, I — I love the place.

[ Sighs ] Oh, my god. I do miss it. I knew it. I knew it. That is not a positive statement. Well, it could be. Come on, walk out of this place and — and help me make the nonprofit a — a force for the good. Shawn, it’s different for you — you best nikolas, and you made him pay for it. He’s my nephew. You want to trick ava into thinking that she’s accepted into your family so you can get your hands on some cash so you don’t have to slum it living like the rest of us. You know what? And nikolas swears it’s legit, but I don’t trust him as far as I can throw him. Well, I think you could probably throw him a fair distance. Alright. This is a first glance, but, honestly, everything seems to be in order, and it looks like you are the new administrator of a well-funded nonprofit. Mm. Well, I can, uh — I can appoint other administrators. Uh, consider the offer on the table. Permanently. Ms. Davis? Yes. I have some good news. The governor has issued you a pardon. The — the governor issued me a pardon? Mm-hmm. I’m just as surprised as you seem to be, but it’s official. You’re going to be released. Portia: I don’t know what it is… but there’s something about that man in that sketch. Or maybe I’m just overreacting to a coincidence. You want to know what I think? Trust your instincts.

[ Elevator bell dings, doors open ] Good advice. Thanks.

[ Elevator doors slide shut ] I don’t think joey’s gonna do anything stupid like that again. Uh, have you met the man? He’s pretty stupid. Yeah, but he’s alone. He’s got no backup.

[ Elevator doors open ] Okay, what did you do? I-I took everything the novaks had. The holdings, their people — everything. Really?

[ Chuckling ] Yeah. Okay, well, what do you think the novaks are going to have to say about that? Uh, to me? Probably nothing. To joey, probably a lot.

[ Chuckles softly ] Okay, so instead of eliminating him, you gave him a fate worse than death. Mercy’s a funny thing. And just when I thought you couldn’t impress me more. All right, so, when you were talking to joey, did he give you any idea about who attacked him? No. Not at all. Sonny, if it wasn’t you and it wasn’t me, then who did it?

I do not like the idea of this man going around port charles asking you and tj questions about me or working n’neka here at my club. Something’s not right if he just won’t talk to me himself. Well, I was worried about cyrus renault, but it could be something more commonplace. I mean, maybe he owns a competing nightclub and is checking out your strengths and weaknesses. Nah.

Quartermaine the photo ark project. The what project? What? Photo ark. In collaboration with national geographic, the photographer joel sartore is documenting every species living in captivity. Take a look at these photographs. They’re incredible. Oh, yes, they are. Look. Mr. Sartore has been to wildlife sanctuaries and zoos all over the world. Oh. Trina was just educating me. The photographer is using this project to spread awareness for conservation across the globe. Mm-hmm. Brilliant. While that’s wonderful work, what does it have to do with the gallery? Well, you’ve been encouraging me to put together an art event on my own for extra credit in art class. What if I organized an exhibit here at the gallery hosting the photo ark project?

And, plus, is trying to sue quartermaines for stocks of elq — plus, broke patient-doctor confidentialities when he went blabbing his mouth all over to brook lynn. Hmm. This gatlin-holt dude sounds like a real keeper. I hate him. Oh, robert. I knew that you would understand. There’s just — there’s no way that my son has autism. [ Sighs lightly ] The photographer’s on tour to support his new book, “photo ark wonders.” Mr. Sartore is free in two weeks, but for one day only. Then, he’s not available for at least a year. Oh, trina, I love it. I love your enthusiasm. And I love that you want to spearhead your own project — your own event. But I just don’t think that hosting the photo ark project is gonna be feasible. Well, I checked the gallery’s calendar. We’re not holding any events in those two weeks. But the event would need to be underwritten, and I just don’t think it’s possible to find somebody to — to — to bankroll that kind of event on such short notice. How about me? Did novak say who beat him up? I’m afraid he’s still unconscious. A good samaritan found him at van ness near the pier and called 911. Wonder what he was doing down there. Well, it’s a shortcut to the harbor view district. Lots of new nightlife sprung up there recently. Like the savoy. So, there never was a plane crash… and drew’s been alive this whole time? Yeah, alive and being held in a compound on the island of crete. But by the time we got there, anna devane and robert scorpio had saw peter shoot drew. He fell into the sea. The wsb and investigators searched for him, but there was no sign of him. I mean, if I had only gotten there sooner… I hear “what ifs” from my patients all the time. Looking back doesn’t change anything. The only thing you can do is think about what you can do now. I just — I don’t know what I want to tell scout. Well, it’s not like you have to talk to scout immediately. I mean, nothing’s gonna change overnight. I doubt peter is gonna be coming back to port charles knowing that you, dante, and anna are looking for him. Why don’t you take this time to think about this? You’re the parent. You control the narrative. Oh, I agree — peter needs to be brought to justice. But, unfortunately, his whereabouts are the only leverage I have. You could plead me out — my public defender would need to remember my name first. True. Maybe if I grovel and agree to his terms, my father can be persuaded to pay for an a-list attorney. The governor plansto issue you a complete pardon for your attack on detective falconeri, which is a little dicey for him — you stabbing a cop and all. But the governor, he’s prepared to take the hit as a personal favor to me. Now, of course… if I have to fend off groundless allegations that could tarnish my reputation, my political sway, it would simply… disappear. Along with your pardon.

[ Breathes sharply ] Going to your father is a terrible idea. I should’ve realized the psych patients would be locked in their cells for the night. But not ryan? Does he get special privileges, or…? No, not really. But because he’s immobile, no one’s worried he’ll escape. So, what exactly drew you to working with criminals? Mentally ill ones at that? [ Chuckles ] Sometimes, business — it’s just that. It’s business. You know as well as i that cassadine industries — it has many tentacles that reach into many interests around the world, and sometimes, things get complicated. I have to look outside of the company for help.

[ Scoffs ] I can show you the spreadsheets… oh! …And the powerpoint presentations if you want. No! God, no! No? Really? No, I’ll take your word for it. Are you done in the backroom? All done. He’s astonishingly resilient, you know? He’s going to make it. Can I go in and see him? Sure, sure. Um, as you know, you and brook lynn have been given familial privileges. Just encourage him to get some rest.

[ Scoffs ] Okay, I’ll try. Not promising. Mm.

[ Monitor beeping ] Mm. Anna. Did you miss me? Chase, hey! Looking good. How you feeling? Uh, great. Too bad the doctors don’t agree. So this is our competition. No, not hardly. I just had another check-up, and dr. Shoneberg still won’t sign off on me returning to active duty. You know, this extra caution has finn’s handwriting all over it. [ Sighs ] I’m so relieved. Me, too. Let’s just hope it continues that way. Did anna say anything about the search for peter? Just that, um, the trail is cold, that there have been no signs of peter since anna and valentin saw him in crete. Great. That means peter could be anywhere, including on his way to port charles.

[ Monitor beeping ] Was I sleeping? Just a little nap. That was rude of me. I apologize. No. You need your rest in order to recover. Doctors say the surgery was very successful, well, of course it was, darling. You didn’t think I’d die on the operating table? That’s not really my style. so, nikolas, my nephew… mm-hmm. I always thought he might be a good cassadine ’cause he had a nice mother. And he was good for a while. And in about 10 years or so, he went bad, went to the dark side, became a real cassadine. And then there’s his son, spencer, who, um, went to france, boarding school, came home, graduated, back in port charles, decided that he couldn’t stand his — his father’s wife, ava, and he set out to break them up. Mm. How bad did it get? He stalked her. Oh. You know, at first, he started out just sending her creepy gifts, and then it sort of accelerated into full-blown stalking until finally, he torched her car. You know, the cassadines don’t sound so strange to me. Really? Yeah. Not compared to shiloh and dawn of day. Mm. I spent years under the spell of a man who demanded unwavering loyalty from his family in exchange for betrayal and abuse. So, you know… at least no matter how misguided spencer’s actions were, they were motivated by love. I suppose that’S… one way to look at it.

[ Sighs ] I mean, the poor kid, he idolized his father. And if he had just seen his flaws and recognized them instead of becoming like him… mm-hmm. You’re not really speaking about spencer, are you? You know, you may have made a good therapist had you gone that route.

[ Chuckles ] No, I’m not. ‘Cause the same holds true for nikolas. I just had so much hope that he would become that young man that I knew and loved so much. But, alas, he didn’t, and I was dead wrong. Spare me the “holier than thou” attitude. You don’t give a damn about spencer. You were just trying to use him to wring a confession out of me. I did spencer a favor and opened his eyes.

[ Scoffs ] So now maybe your son doesn’t have to turn himself inside out, making everyone else miserable trying to earn your respect. I don’t suppose that you explained to spencer why you pled guilty to shooting hayden, did you? Yeah. I didn’t think so. You thought you actually shot hayden. Because you were at that garage on sonny’s orders to kill someone! Or are you gonna stand there and claim that your hands are clean? I paid for my mistakes, just like I paid for yours. But there’s still one debt left outstanding. What’s that? The one you’ve owed hayden ever since you tried to have her killed. She’s entitled to justice, and you’re gonna give it to her. Spencer, what are you doing here? I took a chance you’d be here. Is ava around? No. But I could get her here. In minutes. Or the police. Please don’t do that — either call. [ Sighs ] And all the temptations that I don’t have access to here I’ll — I will have access to when I’m — I’m — I’m out there. So, you know, it’s easy to be strong when you don’t have the option to be weak. Yeah. So what are you gonna do? Are you just gonna stay in here, hiding? You know, life is — it’s full of prisons, and I’m not talking about this one, with the locks on the doors, with the fence around the perimeter. I’m talking about the prisons that we create for ourselves in our own minds. Trust me, I’ve been there.

[ Sighs ] So before you — you turn down an offer to go free, you got to ask yourself something. “Can I do more good in here or out there in the world?” There’s no price tag on the years you spent in prison. But like I said, this isn’t about your past. It’s about your future. My opening offer is $500,000. Nah. I’m not like you, nikolas. People aren’t a commodity to me. That’s the hard part. We have no idea. Well, anna saw peter shoot drew. Drew fell into the ocean and has not resurfaced. They’re looking for him, but they haven’t found him yet. Yeah, but drew has seal training, and he’s survived a lot, although there’s no proof that he’s alive. Yeah, there’s no proof that he isn’t alive, either. Alright. Listen. Jason and britt are in greece looking for her mother. Yes. You know that? We do know that. And we caught up to them, and we filled them in.
