Chelsea: One second.

Adam: Hi.

Chelsea: Hi. What are you doing here?

Adam: Uh, I came to check on you. I was just, um… oh. It’s like you were expecting me.

Chelsea: Oh…yeah, I was just making a little lunch. If I knew you were stopping by, I would have set a place for you.

Adam: Uh, looks a little crowded there. Connor’s at school, right?

Chelsea: Yeah.

Adam: Mm. So, the actual place setting is for, uh — let me guess — billy?

Chelsea: I know you dislike him, but you don’t think he should be allowed to eat lunch?

Adam: I think there’s a whole lot of nice restaurants he could get a lunch in genoa city. I don’t know why he’s got to come here.

Chelsea: Adam, things are going well for me. I’m making progress. I’m putting in the work. Billy has been there for me every step of the way. Okay? He’s a part of my life. So please leave your bad attitude at the door.

Adam: Some people say my bad attitude is the best quality i have.

Chelsea: Adam, I’m serious. I don’t need any of your negativity surrounding my friendship with billy.

Adam: It’s not the friendship that I’m worried about. I’m guessing it’s gone past the “we’re just friends” part.

Chelsea: Maybe it has.

Sharon: Flowers and chelsea’s favorite pastries. You must be headed upstairs.

Billy: I am, yeah. She’s making lunch. You know, I don’t want to show up empty-handed. That would be in poor form.

Sharon: Well, look at you, billy abbott. When did you become so thoughtful?

Billy: [ Chuckles ] It’s a box of pastries and a grocery-bought bouquet of flowers. It’s not a big deal, sharon.

Sharon: Well, it is often the small, thoughtful gestures that speak volumes.

Billy: I feel like there’s more to that statement.

Sharon: I think it’s really admirable, the way that you have stepped up for chelsea. You have been instrumental in her reclaiming her life.

Billy: But…?

Sharon: I do worry. Obviously, the bond between you two is growing stronger.

Billy: Yeah, it is, but isn’t it supposed to?

Sharon: Yes, ordinarily. But you two came together under extraordinary circumstances, and chelsea has made great stride in her recovery, but she’s still in a fragile state, billy.

Kyle: Hey. Did you work from home this morning?

Summer: I did.

Kyle: Sorry I didn’t wake you. I went into the office early to conference with milan, and after my late night last night, it feels like I haven’t seen you in forever. What’s wrong?

Summer: Do you really want to know?

Kyle: Well, when you say it like that, I’m not so sure anymore.

Summer: I’ll tell you what’s wrong. Sally freakin’ spectra.

[ Sighs heavily ]

Sally: I ran into summer yesterday…and it was pretty uncomfortable.

Nick: [ Exhales heavily ] You told her?

Sally: Everything.

Nick: Everything?

Sally: Everything.

Nick: You told her all of it? You’re pregnant. It’s adam’S. We’re still together.

Sally: Mm-hmm. Yeah. All of it. I don’t know. I-I’m sorry. Really, I just thought it would be a good thing. But she just accused me of creating chaos wherever I go.

Nick: Sorry she said that to you.

Sally: Yeah, well, the worst part is she’s not wrong. I mean, this whole thing is a mess. (Phyllis) oooh, hearts

Sharon: I don’t want to overstep, billy.

Billy: I know you don’T. Look, you’ve been nothing but respectful towards chelsea throughout her recuperation. And, uh, it’s obvious you come from a place of concern.

Sharon: Yes, I do. And I’m not chelsea’s therapist, but I do have some thoughts.

Billy: Well, I always appreciate your input. You’ve always been a big help. So, don’t stop now.

Sharon: What if you don’t like what I have to say?

Billy: I’m still gonna listen. Look, you’re a trained professional, okay? I’m a fool with some flowers and some — some baked goods. But we’re both concerned about chelsea, and, uh, the big difference being you actually have the experience to help.

Sharon: Okay, so, from my objective point of view, I do worry about her dependency on you. I know that you’ve made a deep commitment to helping her get through this crisis, and you have lived up to that and more. But I’m here all day. I see how often you come through here to go up and check in on her. And I imagine your relationship has gotten pretty close.

Billy: We’re good friends. Maybe a little bit more, but i feel like that’s a natural progression.

Sharon: Of course.

Billy: Look, sharon, I would never do anything consciously to jeopardize chelsea’s progress.

Sharon: Well, it doesn’t have to be conscious in order to be harmful.

Billy: So, you think our friendship is hurting her?

Sharon: I think that you are too close to the situation to be aware of any of the potential dangers. She’s still in a very vulnerable state, billy.

Billy: Yes, but she is getting better.

Sharon: How much of that is because you’re around? We all know that a new romance is enough to buoy anyone’s mood.

Billy: That’s a good thing, isn’t it?

Sharon: Ordinarily, yes, it can, but…it’s almost like it’s artificially lifting her spirits. And chelsea needs to get through this on her own. It’s the only way that she’s going to come out the other side stronger than she was before. I’m not saying that her dependency on you is causing her to regress. It’s just something for you to be aware of.

Daniel: Hey. How you doing?

Lily: Good. How are you?

Daniel: Oh. I’m good. I’m good. Thank you for meeting with me.

Lily: Of course. So, thankfully, jill has agreed to move forward with omega sphere even while we get everything at the company sorted out.

Daniel: Right. Good. Well, I owe you for that. I know you’ve been fighting for this, so thank you.

Lily: Well, of course I have. I believe in you, and I believe in the project. And that’s why I feel like, no matter what has happened with heather and no matter how you feel about it, this venture is way too important to walk away from. You’ve put too much time and energy into it.

Daniel: I’ll keep that in mind.

Lily: Daniel, I mean it, okay? This is not just a beautiful gift for your daughter. You’re creating something impactful. And it’s a way to reinvent yourself, just like heather and lucy told you.

Daniel: You know I can be a little slow on the uptake sometimes. Plus, I needed to do some wallowing after they left. So, thank you for being patient with me.

Lily: Yeah, of course. I mean, look, it was kind of like hanging out with eeyore, but, you know…

[ Both laugh ]

Daniel: And I’m glad that you can ridicule me for it. It just makes me feel so much better about myself.

Lily: Good. Good. Laughter means that you’re moving on.

Daniel: And, again, I’m grateful to you for that.

Lily: Well, you know who i owe a big thank-you to. Chelsea.

Adam: Well, good thing you didn’t invite me to lunch — because after learning your relationship with billy has progressed beyond friendship, I’ve lost my appetite.

Chelsea: Trust me. I know about your opinions on billy.

Billy: Listen, chelsea, come on. It’s not an opinion. It’s a fact. Billy abbott is a self-serving walking train wreck who cannot possibly have your best interests at heart. You deserve so much better than that.

Chelsea: Is that a fact?

Adam: It’s absolutely a fact.

Chelsea: Why can’t you just let go of this animosity and be happy for me that I’m in a good place? You know, I’m doing all the work, and good things are finally happening for me.

Adam: But, chelsea, I am happy for you. And it’s actually because you are doing the work that you need to be worried. You have to keep your guard up.

Chelsea: Why do you say that?

Adam: From experience. Billy abbott is toxic.

[ Knock on door ]

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] Come in!

Billy: Is everything okay?

Adam: Perfectly fine.

Billy: I was actually asking chelsea.

Adam: Yeah, but you’re concerned about me being here, which is absurd. My son lives here, and chelsea is his mother, so — I know you understand the concept of co-parenting.

Billy: Adam, can you stop talking? I was asking chelsea if she’s alright, and she can answer for herself.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] I used to pre-rinse dishes cause my old detergent

Chelsea: Alright, everybody calm down. You’re in my house, so you got to abide by my rules. Rule number one is you have to be kind and respectful to one another. If you can’t do that, you got to leave, both of you.

Billy: I got no problem with that.

Adam: Sure. We’re all friends.

Chelsea: You never did tell me why you stopped by.

Adam: I just wanted to check in. I wanted to see how you’re progressing. You seem like you’re doing well.

Chelsea: I am. And I appreciate you checking in. I really do.

Adam: I know you do. Um…enjoy your lunch.

Chelsea: Thank you.

Adam: You’re welcome.

Chelsea: Ooh! Flowers and pastries. Thank you.

Billy: Really not a problem, not a big deal. Just thought I would bring something sweet and pretty to put on the table for lunch.

Chelsea: Mm. So, if I invite you over for dinner, you’re gonna bring something even more decadent?

Billy: You’re gonna have to invite me and find out.

Chelsea: Maybe I will.

Billy: So, what’d I miss?

Chelsea: You know, I think adam’s just lost right now. He would never admit it, but i think he stopped by to see me because I’m the most stable thing in his life right now. Imagine that.

Billy: You sound worried about him.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] I am a little. Adam’s had a lot of changes in his life recently. That can be unsettling for anyone, but especially adam.

Billy: You know, you said that the last time he came to you to get something off his chest. So, what’s going on with him?

Chelsea: It’s not really my place to share, but if you’re so concerned about him, you should ask him.

Billy: Oh, yeah, that would go over very well. You know, I just don’t want him to get into one of those phases, you know? That’s when all the terrible things happen.

Chelsea: I know, but I don’t think you should judge him for something he hasn’t done yet.

Billy: Fair enough, and i don’t want to talk about adam anymore. I want to talk about you.

Chelsea: Me?

Billy: Yes. You invite me over for this fancy lunch, and you hint at something special that’s going on, on the phone. What’s up?

Summer: I just — I can’t believe this woman. I can’t believe the way that she’s latched onto my dad. And I cannot believe this latest stunt she’s pulled.

Kyle: Okay, whatever it is, I’m sure there’s a reasonable explanation for it.

Summer: She’s pregnant.

Kyle: Oh, um… I didn’t see that coming. Well, maybe it’s a blessing that —

Summer: It’s adam’S.

> Kyle: You can’t be serious. Okay. Well, at least she won’t be in our lives.

Summer: No, my dad is sticking by her. He’s committed as ever.

Kyle: What is wrong with him? That is — wow!

Summer: See? Even you can’t put a positive spin on this. It’s a disaster.

Kyle: O-okay. It’s a lot to take in, uh… I mean, a lot. But…we can work through this. It’s just a complicated situation.

Summer: Complicated? Kyle, this is a nightmare.

[ Sighs ] And you know what? When she was telling me about it, it was like she expected me to be happy for her. And you know what? I actually think that she just wanted to watch me squirm, and she enjoyed every single second of it.

Kyle: Well, I doubt that.

Summer: What’d you just say?

Kyle: I-I doubt that she was loving every second of it, summer. It’s not like she did this intentionally.

Summer: We really don’t know that.

Kyle: I think we have to operate under the assumption this isn’t a stunt. It’s a baby. I’m sure she had a lot on her mind and a lot to worry about without considering how this situation affects you.

Sally: I’m just kicking myself.

Nick: About what?

Sally: Actually thinking that summer could offer some understanding or support. I mean, there’s absolutely no reason why she would or should. So I don’t blame her. I mean, what was she supposed to say? How was she supposed to react? “Yes, I am having a baby with your uncle, but don’t worry. Your father and I are doing just fine. Never better, actually, and I’m so sorry still about that whole job-stealing thing.”

Nick: That was a lifetime ago. You’re a different person now.

Sally: Yeah, I know, but my life is just as chaotic right now.

Nick: Look, something happened that you didn’t plan for. It’s gonna be okay. That’s the way life works. It’s not ideal, but we’re gonna make the best of it. And it’s not like you’re alone. I’m right here, and I’m not going anywhere. Now, I know you’ve got your doctor’s appointment later today. Is that something you want me to go to with you?

Sally: No, it’s fine. It’s not one of the fun ones with the ultrasound and all that.

Nick: Alright, well, if you change your mind, call me and I’ll be right there. So, here’s what we’re gonna do. You’re not gonna worry about summer or anything else. Your doctor appointment is your focus. The baby’s your focus. It’s our focus.

Sharon: Hey. How are you?

Adam: I am fine.

Sharon: And that tone says that you are not. How are things going with sally? Are you still okay with the situation?

Adam: Sharon, please don’t do that.

Sharon: Do what?

Adam: I don’t need you to therapist me. I’m just — I’m here for the coffee.

Sharon: It’s called being a friend, adam. Most people show some awareness for what their friends are dealing with. I’m trying to show some concern for how you’re facing this because I know you’re going through a rough time, but if you don’t like it, there are plenty of other places in genoa city that serve coffee.

Adam: There are?

Sharon: Don’t make a joke.

Adam: What? Who is joking? I — I have not seen these coffee-serving establishments, so I’m gonna need a list and maybe a map.

Sharon: Mm-hmm. I know what you’re doing. You don’t know how to deal with your emotions, and so you’re just lashing out.

Adam: [ Laughs ] Are you sure you’re not trying to therapist me?

Sharon: Oh, I don’t know. Maybe a little. But I know that you are going through a tough time. And I’m sure that running into billy upstairs at chelsea’s is the reason for your foul mood.

Adam: You can’t really think chelsea getting involved with billy right now is a good idea.

Sharon: I have not spoken to chelsea, but I did give my opinion to billy just now.

Adam: I mean, this guy — he has just made himself a fixture in chelsea’s life, and it’s like he needs her to need him and he does not care how it affects her or her recovery.

Sharon: Have you shared your feelings with chelsea?

Adam: I have. And they have not gotten through. But she would listen to you. I mean, she respects you. You guys have professional history together. I think that you should maybe say something to her —

Sharon: I think that you should stop. Some people are born to hustle.

Chelsea: It was so great. I mean, it felt like — like fate, bumping into him.

Billy: Bumping into who? You still haven’t told me who this person is.

Chelsea: Oh, sorry. Daniel.

Billy: Romalotti.

Chelsea: Yeah. I pitched him an idea where we could use omega sphere to help users’ mental health.

Billy: I didn’t think you were that far along. I thought it was more of a preliminary idea.

Chelsea: Well, it was. But I talked to my therapist about it, and she’s on board. She thinks it would be good for me, very healing to work behind the scenes on a project like this.

Billy: Well, that’s great. That’s great. How did daniel come about this information?

Chelsea: Well, I was leaving my therapy session, and I bumped into him and lily at the coffeehouse. So I just asked him. I asked him if I could share my idea, he said yes, and then it just kind of came pouring out.

Billy: And lily was there. So, how did that go? She can be a little bit of a tough crowd.

Chelsea: She listened and asked questions. I mean, she was a little concerned that maybe it’s too much too soon, but she seemed to like it.

Billy: Well, that sounds very promising.

Chelsea: Yeah. Well, I had this idea where players go through mazes and obstacles that are personal to them, relating to previous traumas in their lives.

Billy: I’m thrilled that you’re using your personal experience for something good.

Chelsea: You’re the reason all of this is possible. So, this fancy lunch, as you like to call it, it’s a — it’s a celebration of my next steps. It’s a celebration of getting closer to being the person i want to be. It’s a celebration of us.

Daniel: You still haven’t explained why you owe chelsea a debt of gratitude.

Lily: Well…because she… helped re-energize you with the idea that she pitched, you know? She made you excited about the possibilities again.

Daniel: Yeah, I think it’s a good idea. I also think it’s really brave of her to want to take something so personal and turn it into this big project. I mean, that had to be really painful for her. And I think it’s inspiring, don’t you?

Lily: Yeah, absolutely.

Daniel: It reminded me of why I wanted to do this in the first place. Her idea sort of crystallized what I want to accomplish with omega sphere.

Lily: I know, and that’s why I want to thank her. She made you excited again. I’m happy about that.

Daniel: Mm. Good. Good. Well, look, we’ll have someone on the team handle all the coding for her and all the technical aspects. And I guess I’ll just help to shape her vision.

Lily: Yeah, great. Do what you have to do. I’m just happy to see you excited again.

[ Chuckles ] It’s exactly the kind of good news I needed today.

[ Menu clatters ]

Daniel: You remember when we joked about creating a game that could help you deal with family conflict? Kind of what we’re doing.

Lily: Yeah. On one level.

Daniel: Well, you see how valuable that is, right?

Lily: [ Laughs ] Oh, I see what you’re doing. You’re using omega sphere to get me to talk about what I don’t want to talk about. Very clever.

Summer: Did you just defend sally spectra to me?

Kyle: I think she has more important things on her mind than trying to get a rise out of you, that’s all. I’m sure she’s scared and anxious about the situation she finds herself in. But the most important thing for everyone, including you, is the health and well-being of that baby.

Summer: Ugh. You’re right. She’s bringing a new life into this world, so I guess we all need to focus on the baby. But, kyle, if you think for a second that she wouldn’t use that baby to manipulate my dad, you are so naive.

Kyle: I think you have to face the fact that your dad’s relationship with sally has taken a few steps past being a casual thing. And if nick has chosen to stay by sally’s side during the pregnancy, then that’s —

[ Knock on door ] Are you expecting someone?

Summer: No, but I have an idea of who it is.

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Nick: I assume you know what this is about.

Summer: What exactly did sally tell you?

Nick: She told me that you two talked yesterday.

Summer: And, what, she just ran to go tell you all about it and now you’re here to scold me like a child?

Nick: I’m not here to scold you, summer. I just want this out in the open. Sally knows she’s never gonna get your support and understanding, but I expect it.

Summer: I’m running a little low on those things lately.

Nick: Look, I get it. You have a problem with this on a lot of different levels. You and sally have a messy history, but that was a long time ago. And things have really worked out for you since, right?

Summer: No, this isn’t about me holding a grudge. You’re confusing me for mom. I’m concerned for you.

Nick: Nothing is happening to me.

Summer: Dad, she’s using you.

Nick: No, she’s not. That is a hurtful and baseless accusation.

Summer: I have a question for you. How long did she know she was pregnant before she told you?

Nick: She didn’t tell me right away.

Summer: [ Scoffs ] Maybe she took her time on purpose. Maybe she wanted to wait so that she could reel you in and deepen your relationship with her.

Nick: Why would she do that?

Summer: So that you would do exactly what you’re doing right now, so that you would stand by her and protect her from adam.

Sharon: Let me explain.

Adam: Look, you said stop, so I will stop. I am not gonna say another word.

Sharon: What I meant was stop focusing on other people’s issues and deal with your own life. I know you, adam. Whatever you’re projecting to the world — this glib, devil-may-care attitude — I know you do care. Look, sally made a choice, and it was one that probably hurt your feelings, but it’s out of your control. And the same goes for chelsea. She has decided to spend her time with somebody else. And while you may be concerned about her, running around and ranting about billy doesn’t help the situation. It’s just a distraction. It allows you to avoid doing what you should be doing and paying attention to what you can control.

Adam: And what would that be?

Sharon: What about your job? Didn’t jack give you a great opportunity at jabot?

Adam: Um…yeah. Um, about that…

Sharon: What, did something go wrong?

Adam: Oh, well, would you look at that? Maybe my former colleague can explain what went wrong.

Sharon: “Former”?

Adam: Kyle. You remember me? How are things going at the old jabot salt mine?

Billy: I mean, I’m not surprised daniel loves the idea. He’s a brooding, artistic type, and this is a real story with real human emotion.

Chelsea: Yeah. He seemed to like how it would fit with his platform. So I think we could come up with a deal. He even laid out how it would all work.

Billy: What do you mean?

Chelsea: Well, his company would deal with the coding and mechanics. I would oversee that and design the visuals.

Billy: Sounds very promising.

Chelsea: Yeah. I thought the exact same thing.

Billy: You know, I’m wondering how this might work, actually, because, uh…

[ Clears throat ] I mean, does daniel have the authority to make these decisions on his own? Or do jill and lily still need to sign off?

Chelsea: Well, like I said, lily was there, and she heard everything. She seemed to like it. Unless she was just being polite. I mean, I did pitch this thing in the middle of a coffee shop.

Billy: No, no, no, no. No, not at all. If lily seemed like she liked it, I’m sure that’s true. You know, she can be brutal when it comes to business. And a lot of deals are made after elevator pitches. And this is your version of that.

Chelsea: I guess so.

Billy: Look, I’m sure it went as well as you think it did, okay? And they’d be foolish not to take this project. And they are not fools over there. They got rid of the last one when I walked out the door.

Chelsea: [ Laughs ]

Billy: I really think this is a perfect fit for daniel’s platform.

Chelsea: You do?

Billy: Yeah.

Chelsea: Really?

Billy: I’m very excited about it.

Chelsea: Okay. Well, that makes me feel better because I’m a little anxious about the business side of it all — you know, the — the contracts, negotiations, hiring.

Billy: Yeah, don’t worry about that. That’s just me falling into my corporate mind-set. If this is the right project for them, they’re gonna make it work. More importantly, I’m glad that you’re this excited about your own project and those creative juices are flowing again.

Chelsea: Well, thank you. I appreciate your support.

Billy: [ Clears throat ]

Chelsea: Um, but is something going on with you?

Billy: No. What do you mean by that?

Chelsea: I don’t know. You just seem more distant since you got here. Just, it feels different than the last time we hung out. Is something wrong? Hi, I’m karen.

Chelsea: Talk to me.

Billy: Jack. He offered me a job. And I’m a little distracted by it.

Chelsea: Wow. Well, I know you told me you had an enlightening conversation with him, but he gave you a job offer?

Billy: Yeah. He asked if I would take over where adam left off and, uh, become his co-ceo.

Chelsea: Oh, that’s a big deal.

Billy: [ Chuckles ]

Chelsea: And very complicated, considering you just had an epiphany that you’re no longer comfortable working in the corporate world, and now you’re asked to go back.

Billy: That’s right.

Chelsea: So, are you really considering it?

Kyle: You’re not gonna believe this, but jabot somehow managed to survive without your half-assed contributions.

Adam: Oh, man. I’m happy to hear that the place is still standing before I was forced out.

Kyle: Yeah, you weren’t forced out.

Adam: Well, you and victor — you did your best.

Kyle: That’s right. The world is against you. That’s why you failed to make a single worthwhile contribution while you were in the c-suite.

Adam: I resigned. Yes. Um, and like I said, I don’t blame you. I don’t hold any ill will. You know, you were right to, uh, work to get me out of there. So, good job, young man.

Kyle: Well, I don’t really seek your approval, so that doesn’t mean much to me.

Adam: Well, sure. You, you know, only want your daddy’s thumbs-up, so… I don’t know if ousting me was a very proud moment for jack. I’m sorry about that. I hope my father made it worthwhile for you. Oh, he did, didn’t he? That’s so good. What did he give you for your treachery? A yacht? Full bag of cash? Maybe — no. A handful of magical beans?

Kyle: You just don’t stop, do you? I’m sorry, sharon. I’m going to get my coffee somewhere else today. I’ll be back soon.

Adam: See that? He’s bluffing. I told you there is nowhere to get coffee in this town other than here.

Sharon: [ Chuckles ] He’s right, you know.

Adam: About what?

Sharon: You would rather stay fixated on the tiniest insult or injury rather than moving on to the next thing that brings you happiness.

Adam: That is not true, okay? I was — I was toying with kyle. I didn’t belong at jabot. Everybody knows that, sharon.

Sharon: Okay, so it didn’t work out at jabot. That just means that you need to move on and find the next thing that does work, something that you’re passionate about and brings you a sense of purpose.

Adam: Well, it turns out somebody may have already offered me that.

Daniel: Look, I am not gonna pressure you. If you don’t want to talk about what’s going on with your family, you don’t have to. But I just have to say I hate to see the way things have gotten with devon. I mean, he’s your brother, lily.

Lily: Yeah, I know. And a pretrial conference date has been set, so it’s really happening.

Daniel: It doesn’t have to.

Lily: What do you mean? It’s inevitable. And he’s not backing down. And he’s not happy that we hired amanda as our lawyer.

Daniel: Well, I wouldn’t be happy, either. It’s a harsh move.

Lily: Harsh move? It’s not out of spite. She’s the best person for the job.

Daniel: Which I totally understand. You’re gonna do whatever you think is necessary. It’s your company. You have to protect it.

Lily: Right, exactly. Thank you. I wish devon would understand that.

Daniel: Well, I think that devon’s actually handling things fairly well, given the circumstances.

Lily: Well, I mean, he’s saying the right things, but i can hear the disdain in his voice. He blames me for everything.

Daniel: I don’t think so. I just wish, as I’m sure you do, that there was some way to bring the two of you back together, you know, rather than driving you apart.

Nick: Look, I know that this is coming from a good place.

Summer: Of course it is.

Nick: You’re concerned and you’re protective and this is the way you demonstrate it. But, summer, I’m telling you, you’re 100% wrong about this.

Summer: [ Sighs ] Dad, you are way too trusting and open for your own good.

Nick: Look, she was so shaken when she found out she was pregnant. She felt scared and alone. But she’s not alone. We’re together. What we have is real.

Summer: What about what she has with adam? That’s gonna be real for the rest of their lives.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Yes. I am not the father of her baby. But it doesn’t change at all how I feel about her. And all of your eye-rolling and disapproval isn’t going to change anything. Supergirl, I love you. I love all of my children. You know that, right?

Nick: That doesn’t mean you get to run my life. I make my own choices. And I need you to respect that. I need you to open up your heart and mind to the idea of me and sally being together.

Sharon: Victor? That’s who made you the offer?

Adam: That is right.

Sharon: Didn’t you just say that he tried to get you fired from jabot?

Adam: Yes, he did try to get me fired, he tried to cut off my options, and then he dangled an attractive alternative in front of me.

Sharon: Sounds intriguing.

Adam: Yeah, well, at first i thought it was just another manipulation by my father, but it turns out the offer was real. And it may just be as fulfilling as what you describe, sharon.

Sharon: Okay.

Adam: And you’re right. The next thing that I do, it needs to give me a sense of purpose.

Sharon: Yeah. And it may be worth pursuing. At the very least, it could help you and victor work through your issues.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Suggesting that victor and i work through our issues. Okay, now I know that you are trying to therapist me.

Sharon: [ Chuckles ]

Adam: No, um… thank you for the straight talk, as always, sharon.

Sharon: Any time. You know it.

Adam: [ Clears throat ]

[ Sighs heavily ] Hey, dad. I’m ready to meet…and to talk.

Billy: You know, I have to confess, I am seriously considering taking the job at jabot.

Chelsea: Really?

Billy: [ Chuckles ] You sound surprised. Believe me, not as surprised as I am. A few weeks ago, I would have laughed at jack. I’m not wearing a suit and tie again.

Chelsea: Huh. So, what’s changed? You realized how good you look in a suit and tie?

Billy: Ha. That’s part of it.

Chelsea: Mm, mm-hmm.

[ Chuckles ]

Billy: No, I mean, I’m seriously considering taking the job because of you.

Chelsea: Me?

Billy: Yeah. I mean, you…

[ Sighs ] I’ve been here helping you out for this time, and the truth is, you’ve been helping me more than I was even aware. You’ve really helped me to see things differently, you know? Why we’re here. What’s — what’s it all about. And the truth is, family’s important. And I would like to work with my family again. So, thank you. Thank you for helping me see things in a different light.

Chelsea: Well, I owe you, now and forever.

Billy: No, that’s not true.

Chelsea: It is true. But even if it weren’t, I want to be there for you. I want to be your friend, your cheerleader, be in your corner. You’ve done all that and more for me.

Billy: But you would be alright on your own, too, wouldn’t you?

Chelsea: Yeah. I mean, I hate to think of my life without you in it. Just thinking about that makes my heart hurt. But I know I need to stand on my own. And I do, every hour of every day. But having you in my life on those days is a real bonus for me, so…

Lily: Well, listen, I have to get back to work, but I am very happy that you are back on track with omega sphere.

Lily: Good. That’s what I want to hear. And listen, as far as me and devon go, I would love to find a solution, but I really think that we’re past that point.

Daniel: Are we, though? Or is there maybe a way to get the two of you just to sit down and listen to each other?

Lily: Daniel, we have tried that. It doesn’t work. And like you said, I have to do what it takes to protect my company, and I’m not gonna apologize for that. And clearly he feels the same way.

Jack: I asked you to marry me. Yes, I did. I want to spend the rest of my life with you.

Diane: Jack, I-I-I think you got caught up in the moment. This — this can’t be real.

Jack: No, it’s as real as it gets.

Diane: Jack. [ Sighs ]

Jack: Even if it was a spontaneous impulse, it is no less sincere. This feels right to me. This feels inevitable. Diane, it’s as simple as this. I love you. You love me. We belong together.

Diane: I think it’s more complicated than that.

Jack: No, it doesn’t have to be. Wait. Wait. Don’t — don’t — don’t — don’t say anything. Don’t give me your official answer yet. You — you sit tight. Don’t go anywhere.

Diane: What, you’re — you’re leaving?

Jack: I will be back as soon as I can.

[ Door closes ]

Diane: [ Exhales sharply ]

Phyllis: I’m in your room. What happened?

Jeremy: You don’t remember?

Phyllis: Oh, god.

[ Sighs ] I was drinking. Ohh, vodka.

Jeremy: Drowning your sorrows.

Phyllis: Then I walked out of the hotel.

[ Inhales sharply ] Ohh. Then it’s blurry. Um… I heard a car. No. Did I get in a car? Oh, my god. Was anyone hurt?

Jeremy: Well, I tweaked my back a little when I picked you up off the street, but no one else was hurt.

Phyllis: You picked me up off the street?

Jeremy: Yeah, I watched you stumble out of the hotel lobby. I had a bad feeling, so i decided to keep an eye on you.

Phyllis: You’re a good samaritan.

Jeremy: I saved your life. You walked into traffic, cars were swerving, and then you just passed out right in the middle of the street.

Phyllis: Oh, my god.

Jeremy: You didn’t bang your head or get hit or anything, maybe some bumps and bruises, but all of that alcohol — whew — you were pretty out of it.

Phyllis: Then you brought me here. Why?

Adam: [ Sighs ]

[ Glass thuds ]

[ Exhales heavily ]

Sally: Look, you shouldn’t feel the need to check in.

Nick: I will take care of everything sally needs until the baby arrives.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Look, I-I get that you’re together, and I know that you’re gonna be around. I’m not fighting that. And I will try to resist the urge to spontaneously check in. But, um, I would really like to come to some of your doctor’s appointments or ultrasounds.

Sally: Um, yeah. I’ll think about it.

Adam: [ Sniffles, sighs ]

[ Inhales sharply ] Mnh.

Nick: Look at that. Twice in one day.

Adam: Imagine that.

Nick: You expecting someone?

Adam: Uh, nope. All alone. And you?

Nick: I just ordered some food for takeout. Won’t be ready for a little bit.

Nick: I’m gonna sit.

Adam: Okay. Uh, so, what’s on your mind? Or do I know already?

Nick: We haven’t had a chance to talk, you know, just the two of us, since sally’s big news.

Sally: Hi. Dessert for the family?

Summer: I mean, he hasn’t really talked to me about you much lately, so I figured either things have gone south or they’re getting more serious and he hasn’t wanted to get into a debate with me about it.

Kyle: Mm-hmm.

Billy: Or so I hear. What about you? How are you feeling about your parents reuniting?

Diane: My contact with allie was never about deception. It was about reaching out. Trying to give you back something that you didn’t even know you’d lost.

Jack: I hope you don’t expect her to thank you.

Diane: But what about you? I know you’re grateful.

Jack: Oh, is that what you want? A thank-you? Thank you, diane. Are we done here?

Diane: I’m trying to make amends.

Jack: To me. Not to the people you hurt. The people you used and exploited. The people accused of your murder. All you left in your wake was heartache and fear and anger. Some of us got over it. Others? Like kyle? You stole from him something he can never get back. Your tore that little boy’s heart out. And for that, I will never forgive you.

Diane: Back in la, I hid my past. I was living a lie. I — I couldn’t get close to anybody because of it. And here in genoa city, I am dodging grenades, but I have to earn my conversations and my companionship. I have to face the damage that I’ve done, head on.

Jack: That is your mission.

Diane: Yeah. It’s going to take a while. But being here with you today and talking about kyle and harrison and being open about my past, it…

[ Exhales sharply ] …Almost makes me feel normal. And gives me hope for my future.

Diane: I guess I just didn’t realize how, uh — how hard it would be to redeem myself, how long this battle would take.

[ Crying ]

Jack: I can see this has been tough on you. My advice? Take the clean slate kyle and i have offered you. Let that fortify you from here on.

Diane: Thank you. It means a lot. I appreciate you so much. You have the least reasons of anyone to make me feel worthy, believed, safe. And yet you do.

Diane: What can I do to convince you that there is nothing to this?

Jack: I’m not sure you can. This has been eye-opening for me. I’ve been giving you the benefit of the doubt for a long time now, but if I’m honest with myself, I still have trouble trusting you, and I’m not sure that’s ever going to change.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Jeremy: I was there for you, phyllis, helping you in your moment of need.

Phyllis: [ Exhales sharply ] You brought me up here because you’re still trying to devise a plan against diane and you’re scheming and you want me to be a part of it. So you figure I will because you picked me up off the ground.

Jeremy: Off the street. I’m sure there’s security footage of the whole thing. But I got there quick enough so you weren’t hurt. And it may look like you just tripped. It was handled discreetly. But imagine if there’s a video that shows you being wasted, wandering into traffic, passed out. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. A danger to herself and to others. Poor, poor phyllis.

Phyllis: People already think that about me, so you don’t have much leverage.

Jeremy: Well, this incident could have been so much worse if I hadn’t been there.

Phyllis: You’re trying to threaten me and coerce me into doing what you want. I won’t have that. My moderate to severe plaque psoriasis…

Nick: You’re in a tough spot, adam. I sympathize with you. I really do.

Adam: Um, thank you?

Nick: My concern is how you handle things from here on out.

Adam: And I assume by “handle things,” you mean between the three of us, you, sally, me. I mean, four if you include our baby.

Nick: Mainly with sally.

Adam: Yeah, look, I-I hear her loud and clear when she says this baby doesn’t change anything between us, okay? I’m gonna be a father to my child, but I’m not looking to interfere with what you and she have. Does that cover the bases to your satisfaction?

Nick: Sounds like we’re on the same page, which makes me happy. I’m not at all worried about my relationship with sally. We are solid. My concern is for her well-being.

Summer: I — I can’t — I can’t believe this. You’re — you’re pregnant with my little brother or sister?

Sally: Uh, no. I’m not pregnant with nick’s child.

Summer: Oh, my god. Thank god. I mean, you’re not that far along, though. What does that mean? That you slept with some other guy behind his back?

Sally: No, no. It’s not like that.

Summer: What’s it like, sally?

Sally: Okay. There was one other person, one time, a while ago, and it was about two people saying goodbye. Nick and I discussed it immediately, and he understood.

Summer: So, adam. He’s the — wow. Of course. Who else would it be?

Sally: Yeah. No, you’re right. It’s adam’s baby. But your father is very supportive.

Summer: Yeah. He’s a good guy, but you must have really hurt him.

Sally: Yeah, he was disappointed.

Summer: Okay, so obviously, it’s best for everybody if you and my dad just go your separate ways so that you and adam have time to figure all of this out before your due date.

Sally: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, that’s not happening. Look, I have zero desire to re-ignite anything with adam, baby or no baby. We are co-parents, and that’s all. You know, in regards to your father and me, yeah, we’ve talked about what this means for us, and obviously it’s an ongoing conversation, but we want to stay together. Look, nick is in this with me, and he’s everything that I could want in a partner.

Summer: Of course he is, but that doesn’t mean that you —

[ Exhales sharply ]

Sally: That I what? That I deserve him? Is that what you are gonna say?

Summer: Something like that.

Sally: You know, I’m really grateful that nick and I have something so special that we both still want to make it work. So, hopefully, after you have time to think all of this through, you can accept that.

Summer: Yeah. I-I think I’m gonna need some time to think about all of this. No, wait. Actually, I’ve thought about it, and, sally, you could not be more selfish.

Kyle: That man better not even contemplate hurting my son.

Jack: Kyle, I saw how bad this sounds. Don’t worry. We will handle this together.

Kyle: Yeah, damn right we will.

Jack: And I will do everything necessary to protect your mother.

Jack: After dina died, I was closer to kyle and my sisters and billy and abby and the whole abbott family. But now it turns out the teardrop of love may not have only brought me family love. It may have brought me a beautiful, captivating, gorgeous woman. Maybe the gem just needed a little time to do its magic. My celebrity colorist?

Kyle: Why do you care what i think about my mom and dad being together?

Billy: Because you’re family. We’re not exactly close because you’re a pain in the neck. But I’m on your side and I do care about what you think. I hope you know that.

Kyle: So, all the sudden, you’re going to be the understanding uncle?

Billy: [ Chuckles ] Your dad said you’re on the fence, but he believes eventually you’ll come back around. Is he right about that?

Kyle: Time will tell.

Billy: Look, kyle, it’s understandable you’d have mixed feelings about all this.

Kyle: I want my parents to be happy. If they can do that together, I’m all for it. It’d be cool for them to have a stable relationship after all these years.

Billy: But you’re worried that someone’s gonna get hurt.

Kyle: I’d hate to see that happen. And given their history….

Billy: Yeah. I hear you there.

Kyle: Look, if I’m telling the truth, I’m more worried about my mom hurting my dad than the other way around. I know she’s worked so hard to turn her life around. She’s trying to be a better person, and I love that. And I don’t doubt her feelings towards him.

Billy: But it’s impossible to forget what’s happened in the past, the way she just up and left you as a kid. You know, I haven’t been through what you have, but I can relate on some level.

Kyle: How so?

Billy: Well, my mom, jill, wasn’t exactly a doting maternal presence in my life when I was young. In fact, she still isn’T. You know, I think I broke the family record for being the youngest kid sent off to boarding school.

Kyle: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: She just wasn’t interested in being a mother. And I resented that for a long time. But on the flip side, I had an amazing dad. You know, even when we would butt heads — and we did — I always knew that he was there for me, no matter what.

Kyle: Like my dad.

Billy: Naturally you feel protective of the parent that was a constant in your life. And your instincts are telling you to protect yourself, as well. Look, no matter how good things are right now, you’re already half-prepared for being disappointed all over again. But I believe that people can become the person that you want them to be, that you hoped they’d be. And — and I hope that diane does that for you. I hope she can prove that history doesn’t have to repeat itself…and you get the family that you always wanted.

[ Door opens ]

Jack: Hello?

Diane: Jack.

Jack: Oh, good. You’re still here.

Diane: As if I’d have gone anywhere. Uh, where — where — where did you go?

Jack: Madame…

Jack: I’d like to propose a toast. To the new life you have created for yourself, to the incredible changes you’ve brought to mine.

Diane: Mm.

Jack: When I think of our future together, believe me, it is spectacular.

Diane: [ Sighs ] Well, I like the sound of that. Cheers.

Diane: Yeah.

Jack: Okay. May I?

Diane: Yeah.

Jack: I want to get this right.

Diane: [ Chuckles ] Oh, jack.

Diane: [ Exhales sharply ]

Jack: Will you make me, at long last, the happiest, the luckiest man in the world?

Diane: [ Exhaling sharply ]

Jeremy: I assume you need this. I have aspirin, too.

Phyllis: I don’t want aspirin. Thank you. I’m good. I will take care of myself.

Jeremy: Tough. Self-sufficient. I admire that. But I suggest you examine what led to your incident tonight.

Phyllis: I’m getting a lecture from a felon?

Jeremy: [ Laughs ] Well, from what I’ve seen, your whole world is falling apart, whether you want to admit it or not. And I bet it’s tearing you up. I know what happens when you let things like that fester inside. I spent six long years in prison, and for the first couple, I was consumed with bitterness. Then one day I had a realization which gave me a sense of calm.

Phyllis: I know you want to tell me about it, so go on.

Jeremy: I decided I wasn’t gonna let those burning feelings eat me alive anymore. I was gonna use them as fuel for a plan aimed at one specific target — the person that ruined my life. And I believe that approach could work wonders for you, as well, especially since the target of your anger is the same as mine — diane jenkins. We can bring her down, phyllis. Sally: I get that you’re upset, okay? I can hardly blame you. It is a lot to take in.

Summer: No kidding.

Sally: Look, nick and I have been very open with each other since the very beginning, okay? We share our feelings. We don’t keep secrets from each other. And, no, we have no idea what the future holds. But as of right now, we want to stay together and keep building our relationship. So, if nick wants to be with me, that’s his decision to make, and I hope you can respect that.

Summer: [ Scoffs ] My dad is extremely protective of the people that he’s close with. So of course his natural instinct is to stick by you, whether or not it’s good for him.

Sally: Nick is happy with me. We’re happy.

Summer: You know, it wasn’t too long ago that I told my dad that I thought that you were using him, but I thought it would be for money or status or the doors that he could open for you. And he told me that I was wrong.

Sally: You are.

Summer: I knew that eventually you would show your true colors, and it seems like that time has come.

Sally: What — what does that mean?

Summer: I think it’s pretty clear, sally. You’re definitely using my dad as a shield to protect yourself from adam.

Adam: So, I take it that you are the arbiter of sally’s well-being now? You get to decide what’s good, what’s not. And clearly I’m on the “not” list.

Nick: It is not like that at all. Look, I get it. You want to be a part of this journey along with sally and your baby. But there is a fine line.

Adam: One which you’ve drawn. And where is that exactly?

Nick: I’m just pretty sure you’re gonna try and use this situation to slowly insinuate yourself back into sally’s world.

Adam: How am I gonna do that, nick? How am I gonna insinuate myself back into sally’s life?

Nick: Perfect example — when you asked sally if you could be a part of all of her doctor’s appointments and sonograms like you did earlier.

Adam: Um, okay. I didn’t say “all.” I said “some.”

Nick: It might make you feel like you have this sense of entitlement or that you’re sharing this connection that sally isn’t feeling. It’s just gonna make her life a lot more difficult. I could tell she was trying to be polite. She told you she would think about it, but she was also feeling a lot of pressure, and she just doesn’t need the stress right now.

Adam: You know, it’s interesting that you say you understand my situation. You act as if you’ve accepted the baby is mine and that when he or she is born that I will have a role to play in their life — and in sally’s, by extension. But yet this sounds awfully a lot like a warning to back the hell off.

Nick: I am not threatening you.

Adam: No?

Nick: I am simply suggesting that you look deep inside and ask yourself, is it fair to put what you want above what sally needs?

Adam: [ Scoffs ] You know, I’m not surprised you think so little of me, nick. Although a part of me had hoped for better. And, yeah, we did clash when you got together with sally, but we were getting along for a while, and I thought our relationship had evolved. You even warned me about victor trying to screw things up for me at jabot. You know, ironically, I’m not even mad about him for that anymore. He was right. I don’t belong at jabot. I wasn’t fulfilled there.

Nick: What, so, you went from not trusting dad and wanting anything to do with him to this?

Adam: Trust me. No one is as surprised as I am. But I’m seeing things through a new lens. You know, this whole time, i thought victor was trying to control me because he only saw me as the sum of my worst tendencies. But maybe he’s the only one in the family who sees my true nature and that he understands me better than anyone, even myself.

Kyle: I wasn’t expecting you to be so open and positive. Not that I don’t appreciate it. It’s just not our usual thing.

Billy: I can be a supportive uncle when you need me to be.

Kyle: But you’d rather bust my chops every chance you get.

Billy: Yeah, I’d prefer that.

Kyle: Yeah, well, I got to get out of here. I got to get back to the office. There’s a lot to tie up tonight.

Billy: Alright. Hey, listen, if you talk to your dad, can you, uh, just ask him to give me a call?

Kyle: Yeah. Something urgent?

Billy: Yeah. I’m seriously considering his proposal.

Kyle: What proposal is that?

Jeremy: So, that’s it. Bare bones. It needs some work. But I can tell by that look in your eye you’re intrigued. It’s a good plan, right?

Phyllis: No. I can’t participate in your plan. It would rock my world and not in a good way.

Jeremy: Come on, phyllis.

Phyllis: Thank you.

Jeremy: Aren’t you ready for a change like that? Huh? Shake things up. Get your mojo back.

Phyllis: I can’T. I’d lose everything.

Jeremy: It seems to me you already have.

Phyllis: Um, excuse me.

Jeremy: Instead of spinning out of control, you can keep a clear focus, not to mention the satisfaction of giving diane exactly what she deserves — because I guarantee it’ll work. And afterwards, you’ll be triumphant, a whole new woman.

Phyllis: Um…right. Well, I-I don’t think it’s a good plan, actually. I think it — I just — I don’t think it will work. Nothing has worked. Um, I’ll give it some thought.

Jeremy: Well, that’s better than a flat-out “no.” Take your time. Take all the time you need. Within reason.

Phyllis: What does that mean?

Jeremy: I’m moving forward with the plan, but I can’t do it alone. Look, this isn’t for you and you don’t think you have enough of an appetite for justice and revenge, then I’ll find someone else. But I would hate for you to lose out on this golden opportunity.

Jack: Wait, wait, what would possess you to say that? You know we belong together.

Diane: Just let me get this out, okay? I can’t marry you because it wouldn’t be fair to you or — or to your family. Jack, I’ve got a target on my back, and I can’t keep bringing chaos and — and — and danger to you and to the people that we love.

Jack: If you’re talking about stark, we are both on his list, remember?

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Jack: Do you honestly think i would let you face that man on your own? We are a team, united. And once we are husband and wife, that bond is even stronger, impervious to his threats or anyone else’S. Now, I say we stop running from jeremy stark. I say… I say we stop running from this. This has been decades in the making. We’ve known each other most of our lives.

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: We’ve been together. We’ve been apart. We’ve been together. We’ve been apart. We were engaged. We broke each other’s hearts. We… we never made the last step because it wasn’t the right time for us. Diane, it is now. Now is the right time. I believe that with everything in me. Please. Please say yes.

Phyllis: Hi.

Billy: Actually, I was looking for him earlier, and, uh, I found out that he and diane left on a romantic vacation earlier today.

Phyllis: Nice.

Billy: You do know they’re back together, right? I just assumed summer filled you in.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. I know.

Billy: When I say “back together” [Chuckles] It seems like things are really rolling along. You know, she just moved in, and now they’re on a romantic getaway. Seems like this is what they want and they’re in it for the long haul. Crazy, isn’t it? There’s nothing like hitting the waves.

Nick: So, dad is the only one who understands your true nature. I don’t even know how to respond to that.

Adam: Well, for the record, i didn’t think that I was even capable of change either, nick. I thought I was just the way everybody saw me — as a borderline monster, you know, just out to cause trouble for sport. But these last few months, they have had a profound effect on me.

Nick: How so?

Adam: Well, I’ve had to deal with the consequences of my breakup with sally. I’ve had to reconsider my career path after this, uh, less-than-glorious stint at jabot. And… and I’ve had to reestablish the most important relationships in light of, um, certain struggles people have had, okay? Spending time with chelsea and connor lately — it’s reminded me what matters most, that you can’t take anyone or anything for granted, and you certainly can’t complain with the way people are treating you if you’re not willing to meet them halfway. I mean, I see sally, victor, even you more clearly now. I see the kindness and the decency that you have given me when you reached out and you gave me a chance to be a better man. And I couldn’t rise to the occasion then. But I think it’s time to try again.

Sally: You are so wrong.

Summer: When adam dumped you, you had a big reality check as to the kind of person he was and how he treats everyone around him, including people he claims to love. And now you’re pregnant with his baby. You’re tied to him for life, whether or not you want to be. And who knows? Maybe you’re actually scared that you’re gonna fall for him again. Either way, you’re using my dad. You’re exploiting his kindness and his big heart to protect yourself.

Sally: Okay, will you stop? I’m not using nick in any way. We have a deep connection. Our feelings for each other are real.

Diane: I’m a little surprised at myself. I, uh… I thought I had given up believing in happy endings a long time ago.

Jack: Ah. I think happy endings are overrated. It means the — the end of a story. I think all the fun is in the journey there.

Diane: Mm. I never want this journey with you to end.

Jack: I am so happy, so grateful to get this new beginning with you.

Phyllis: Yeah. Summer? Hello. It’s your mother. Yeah. Your mom. You only have one of those. I gave birth to you in an elevator. An elevator. Call me back. You can’t avoid me forever. Please…call me back.

[ Cellphone thuds ]

[ Sighs ] Mnh. Hey, daniel! I know you made it go to voicemail. I could tell. There was only one and a half rings. So, you’re trying to avoid me, too. Okay, well, I’ll just tell you what I told your sister. Call me back. You can’t avoid me.

[ Voice breaking ] You only have one mom.

Michael: Oh, she —

Lauren: Ohh.

Michael: She’s drunk. The phyllis train is off the rails.

Phyllis: If you don’t call me back, I will hunt you down and i will ambush you.

Michael: We can pretend we didn’t see her.

Lauren: I can’t unsee that.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ]

[ Cellphone thuds ]

Lauren: Okay. We’re going in. Come on.

Michael: Oh, into the fray.

Lauren: Phyllis?

Michael: Hey.

Lauren: [ Chuckling ] Hi.

Phyllis: Look at this. Two people who will not ignore me.

Michael: [ Chuckles ] Well, we thought about it.

Phyllis: You want a drink? Can I buy you one?

Lauren: Oh…

Michael: No. We’re good. Thanks.

Lauren: No. The question is, are you?

Phyllis: I can say with good authority I am not okay.

[ Laughs, sighs ]

Lauren: What’s wrong, honey?

Phyllis: My life is spinning out. I can’t stop it.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Sharon: I’ll be right with you!

Mariah: Oh, that’s okay. Take your time. Nothing life-changing to report.

Sharon: Ahh!

Mariah: Uh, okay. To, uh — to sum it up, the baby is born, motherhood is magical, our daughter is perfect. I mean, her — her chubby little legs and the smell of her head. And every time she smiles, i just die like a thousand times.

Sharon: That’s what having a child is.

Mariah: Meaning it’s everything.

Sharon: Always and forever.

Mariah: I didn’t know it was possible to feel this much happiness. Being a parent is already making me see the world so differently.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

[ Breathes deeply ]

Nick: Sup?

Sally: Hey, do you have a sec?

Nick: Uh, yeah. Actually, could I just call you back in one minute? I’m just trying to wrap up some work here.

Sally: Um, I’m just really worried. I-I feel like something — something’s off.

Nick: What do you mean?

Sally: Well, I just have this really splitting headache and it won’t go away and — I don’t know — I’m just concerned for the baby.

Nick: Okay. Uh, call the doctor. I’ll be right there.

Sally: Thank you.

[ Inhales sharply ] Hi. Uh, this is sally spectra. I — I need to talk to dr. Chandler. I’m — [ Sighs ] I’m just worried that something might be wrong with my baby. Diabetes can serve up a lot of questions,

Adam: I heard. I heard. I — I didn’t want to interrupt. So, congratulations. Having a child — you know, there’s nothing on earth like it.

Sally: Oh. You got here fast.

Nick: How are you feeling? What did the doctor say?

Sally: [ Sighs ] She said that some women are prone to headaches early in their pregnancy. It could be due to a number of factors, like stress, fatigue, sinuses, caffeine withdrawal. Or it could be related to my blood pressure issue.

Nick: Okay. If it’s the blood pressure thing, um, is that a problem?

Sally: I mean, dr. Chandler didn’t seem concerned, which made me a little less worried.

Nick: What did she say to do?

Sally: Well, call her back if I got any more symptoms, but in the meantime, just try and reduce stress, eat well, rest. She did say that I could try and find if there was, like, a food or an odor that was triggering my headaches, which sounds like a fun little experiment.

[ Chuckles ]

Nick: [ Chuckles ] Okay. Um, well, if that’s all it was.

Sally: Wow, you were really worried.

Nick: Yeah. Sally, it’s my job to worry. You better get used to that.

Lauren: You know, let’s get some food and some coffee in you.

Phyllis: No. I don’t want a sandwich and a latte. That’s not gonna fix my problem.

Michael: Mm. Strongly disagree. They have a filet mignon panini here that will fix just about anything. And I’m gonna order you one — and maybe one for myself and you. Hmm!

Lauren: So, hey, what caused you to self-medicate with alcohol?

Phyllis: [ Inhales sharply ] My children. Children [Gasps] Can break your heart.

[ Sighs ]

Lauren: You are not wrong there.

Phyllis: They think that I’m the cause of their problems and that, um, I’m interfering in their life.

Michael: Because you are, aren’t you?

Phyllis: What the hell kind of question is that? “Because you are, aren’t you?” Seriously? All I’m trying to do is help my children.

Lauren: Okay, well, we know you have the best intentions when it comes to daniel and summer.

Phyllis: Yeah, yeah, yeah. That’s it. That’s it. That’s it — the best intentions. That’s all you have to say. And I do. And I’m trying to help my children. And for some reason, they’re turning it around that all their problems in their life are because of me and I am the cause of all their issues. And I am so tired of it.

[ Sighs ] What is that? You just looked at each other. You think I’m to blame, too?

Michael: We didn’t say that.

Lauren: Yeah. We’re here for you.

Phyllis: No, you’re not.

Lauren: Like we always are.

Phyllis: No, you’re not. Blah.

[ Laughs ] Your words are so meaningless to me now. So meaningless. I see you guys with your shifty eyes. “Ohh. Phyllis is wrong. Phyllis is on a tear. There’s something wrong with phyllis.” You know what? I don’t want your “advice.” I don’t want it. The only person that I can rely on is this, this beautiful person right here, this drink. Mm! And myself.

Jack: So, what do we do now?

Diane: Well, not another movie.

[ Both laugh ] But who needs that when I have my very own handsome leading man right here?

Jack: Oh, I like the sound of that.

Diane: Yeah.

Jack: Okay, so, I’ll put on some music, and maybe we could open another bottle of champagne —

Diane: Jack. I don’t want anything but to be here with you, safe in your arms. It’s everything. Type 2 diabetes?

Mariah: When I look at her, i just see pure innocence and — and just endless possibility. She’s got her entire life ahead of her and our life together. And I get to travel through the world with this incredible human being, guiding her and learning from her at the same time.

Adam: Well, she is very lucky to have you and — and tessa.

Mariah: Yeah. We’re lucky to have her. We are so proud to be her parents and just — I can’t believe that the three of us, we’re — we’re a family.

Adam: [ Chuckles ]

[ Cellphone rings ]

Mariah: Oh, um, this is tessa, so I really have to take this.

Sharon: Sure. Go, go.

Mariah: Okay.

Adam: Well, I should probably be going, too.

Sharon: But you didn’t even order any coffee.

Adam: It’s probably kind of late for that thing anyway, but, um, congrats again, sharon.

Sharon: Hey. Wait a minute. What’s going on with you?

Adam: Nothing. I’m — I’m good, you know? I’m adam newman. I’m, uh — I’m a guy without a care in the world.

Sharon: Well, sometimes being adam newman isn’t as easy as it looks. Look, if you don’t want to tell me what’s on your mind, it’s fine with me. I’m just not buying this laissez-faire routine.

Adam: Okay. Um… [ Chuckles ] Sally’s pregnant. And the baby’s mine.

Sharon: Oh.

Adam: I just… sharon, I just dropped a bomb on you, and you don’t have that much of a reaction. You already knew, didn’t you? How could you not tell me that i was gonna be a father?

Sally: [ Sighs ] I just feel kind of silly that my first instinct was to call you over what was probably just a standard-issue headache.

Nick: First, I don’t want you to ever feel silly about calling me about something about your health or the baby’s health. Secondly, you absolutely should have called me.

Sally: I guess I just wanted you to tell me that I was overreacting, like you were, like, my husband or something. That was absolutely not a request.

[ Both laugh ]

Nick: Look, I love it that you thought to call me when you thought something might be wrong. I really want to be that person for you. I just want you to know there isn’t anything I won’t stop doing or drop to come be with you if you need me.

Sally: God, you were in the middle of something when i called. You shouldn’t — you should probably get back to the office.

Nick: Psch. Are you kidding me? Forget work. Let’s sit down. Let’s see if we can figure out the source of your headache by going over what you ate and drank.

Sally: Really? ‘Cause when I said it would be a fun little experiment, I might have been overstating the fun part.

Nick: No way. This is gonna be super fun. Let’s get into it. What’d you have for breakfast?

Sally: Um, two eggs and some toast.

Nick: Okay. Eggs and toast. How about lunch?

Sally: Chicken salad.

Nick: And…?

Sally: Some cashews from the minibar for dinner.

Nick: Are you — cashews, sally?

Sally: Yeah, I know, but the headache made me lose my appetite.

Nick: Are you remembering to take your prenatal vitamins?

Sally: [ Sighs ] I’ve been a little lax about it. I’ve just never really been a vitamin person.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Well, obviously I’m gonna have to stay on top of you. About this situation…

Sally: Mm.

Nick: …So I can keep an eye on you. Obviously, we’re gonna have to spend a lot more time together.

Sally: [ Chuckles ]

Sharon: I did know about sally’s pregnancy, um, but i promised that I wouldn’t tell anyone.

Adam: Sharon, not even the father?

Sharon: Well, it wasn’t my place to tell you. And besides, at the time, she didn’t even know who the father was. It’s not until just now that I’m learning that it’s you.

Adam: So, when did nick tell you that she was pregnant?

Sally: Oh, it wasn’t nick that told me. It was sally.

Adam: What? I… I didn’t think you two were exactly close.

Sharon: Oh, we’re not. I think because she’s a first-time mother and the situation is a little bit confusing and she just needed some guidance.

Adam: [ Sighs ]

[ Chuckles ] Yeah, I think we’re all gonna need, uh, a lot more guidance by the time this baby’s born. I love my hardwood floors.

Adam: Well, part of me was, um, holding out hope that we would find our way back to each other, but now that nick has stepped up, even though the baby’s mine, it’s not gonna happen. You know, he really is mr. Wonderful. And I’m out in the cold.

Sharon: Well, I’m sorry. I know how difficult it must be for you to sit back and watch nick with sally. But she did tell you the truth. So, that couldn’t have been easy for her, either.

Adam: Yeah, uh…I wouldn’t want to have that conversation with me. I’m just still pretty stunned by it all. You know, I’m having a — I’m having another baby.

Sharon: You are going to be a great dad to this kid, just as good as you are to connor.

Adam: Well, I appreciate you saying that, sharon, but having nick in the mix, it’s gonna make things a lot trickier.

[ Sighs ]

Lauren: You know, going on a tear is hungry business. Come on. Eat something. Make you feel better.

Michael: And maybe soak up some of the booze.

[ Plate clatters ]

Phyllis: I don’t want to stuff a sandwich down my throat.

Lauren: You know we love you and we’re here for you. Aren’t we?

Michael: Phyllis, listen to me. You are family. What can we do to help?

Phyllis: We’re not family. Go ahead and say it to me. You want to say “I told you so.” That’s what you want to say.

Lauren: No, we don’T.

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ]

Lauren: Although we did warn you about interfering in daniel’s life behind his back.

Phyllis: You two are supposed to be my friends. Do you know what that means? Friends? Hmm? And you. How can you be diane’s friend and be my friend? How can you do that to me?

[ Gasping ]

[ Voice breaking ] You welcomed that bitch back into town after she faked her death with open arms! How could you do that to me? You allowed that virus to come into town and latch on to my daughter like a host organism. You allowed the infection to come into town.

Michael: Diane is not the root of all your problems!

Phyllis: Shh! Oh, my god, she is. Oh, my god, she is. I wish she’d died. I wish she’d died. I want her dead.

Lauren: Phyllis —

Phyllis: You can only die once, right? It is not too late. I want that bitch dead now.

Diane: This feels so right. I don’t ever want to move.

Jack: We could stay here indefinitely.

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: We could move here. The view is spectacular.

Diane: Mm.

Jack: But it’s not the only view I like.

Diane: Don’t you think we’d get a little antsy after a couple of months?

Jack: I’ll tell you what. We could travel from one romantic place to the next, an endless adventure around the world.

Diane: [ Chuckles ] Now, that I can picture.

[ Sighs ] But as tempting as it sounds to leave the jeremy stark problem behind, we both have too much waiting for us at home. You could never leave your family or jabot, and I don’t ever want to be apart from kyle again.

Jack: Of course you are right.

Diane: [ Laughs ]

Jack: Nothing wrong with a little fantasy, but reality is pretty great, too. I promise I will do everything i can to make it as special as it can be for you…for us.

Sally: I’m really sorry for worrying you. I probably just overreacted to something that in the end was probably nothing.

Nick: Come on. You reacted quickly to a potential crisis because you’re worried about that perfect little baby inside of you. That’s what mothers do. I think you’re gonna be an amazing mother, sally.

Sally: Thank you.

[ Knock on door ]

Adam: Sally, it’s me.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Did you call him, too?

Sally: No.

Nick: I guess him showing up unannounced is gonna be a regular thing.

Sally: Ugh, I hope not. But I — I can’t not answer it.

Nick: Yeah.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Hi. What are you doing here? Want luxury hair repair that doesn’t cost $50?

Adam: Um, I — I was just thinking about you, and I — I wanted to check in.

Sally: I mean, everything’s fine now.

Adam: Now? I mean, was — was there a problem? I mean, is — is that why nick’s here? Is everything okay with you and the baby?

Sally: Yeah. I-I just had a pretty bad headache, and I called the doctor, but it’s — it’s gone now. There’s nothing for you to worry about.

Nick: It’s all good.

Sally: Look, you shouldn’t feel the need to check in. I mean, there’s really nothing i need from you before the baby’s born.

Mariah: So, I noticed you and adam were talking while I was on the phone. It looked intense.

Sharon: Yeah, well, when is something not up with adam?

Mariah: That was purposefully vague.

Sharon: Every single detail about the baby takes precedence here. What did tessa say?

Mariah: Just that she was singing our little sugar plum to sleep.

Sharon: Aww.

Mariah: We will be forever grateful that delphine made us moms.

Sharon: So will I. I’m already so proud of the mother you’ve become.

Mariah: Well, I’m not sure that I can ever live up to you, but I will certainly try.

Sharon: Hey, I haven’t asked you the biggest question yet. Have you come up with a name?

Diane: I wish there was an easy way to deal with jeremy and his threats. I mean, I suppose that stealing something else from victor and nikki’s pied–terre in chicago is out of the question.

Jack: I still stand by that choice. It worked, if only temporarily.

[ Thudding ]

Diane: [ Gasps ] What was that?

[ Exhales sharply ]

Jack: Hey.

Diane: No. What if it’s him and — and — and he’s going to find us?

Jack: There’s no way he could possibly know we are here.

Diane: Jack. No, don’t open it.

Jack: It’s okay.

Diane: [ Exhales sharply ]

Jack: A tree branch fell.

Diane: Really?

Jack: Yeah. Come see for yourself.

Diane: [ Exhales sharply ]

Jack: Everything’s okay. We are safe.

Phyllis: Hmm. I wonder where diane’s tombstone is. I should find it and put it to good use.

Lauren: For heaven’s sake, phyllis.

Michael: Making death threats in the middle of a hotel lobby is such a bad idea.

Phyllis: It’s not my hotel anymore, so — pbht. You know, it’s the first amendment. Michael, it’s the constitution. I can do what I want.

Michael: Except when you’re yelling murder or fire.

Lauren: This isn’t helping anyone.

Phyllis: Wow.

Lauren: Just stop it.

Phyllis: Oh, stop, please, you two. Enough. Enough. I’m done with the tough love. You’re either with me or you’re against me.

Michael: Well, we’re not against you.

Phyllis: Yeah, sure. Well, I’m done with tough love, and I am done with you. Okay?

Lauren: Phyllis, hold on.

Lauren: Go — go after her.

Michael: Phyllis. Phyllis! Phyllis! She found it.

Mariah: We have not found the perfect name yet.

Sharon: Well, I can’t keep calling her “the baby.”

Mariah: I know. I know. Trust me — we’re gonna figure it out soon.

Sharon: Can you at least tell me what names are in the running?

Mariah: I could, but do you really want to talk about it?

Sharon: Of course. Why wouldn’t I?

Sharon: I just didn’t know if you would have any sensitivity, considering…

Sharon: Oh. Wait. You mean because I didn’t get to name you?

Mariah: Yeah. I didn’t want to bring up any bad memories.

Sharon: You know, I didn’t get to raise you, but we did find each other again. And you turned out to be a remarkable woman with a beautiful name that fits her beautiful soul.

Mariah: And, see, that’s exactly what we’re trying to do. We’re trying to find the perfect name that matches our little girl’s essence.

Sharon: When you hear it, you’ll know it.

Jack: I hate to see you on edge like this.

Diane: I’m just so mad at myself for letting jeremy get to me again. You know, I refuse to be that man’s victim, but I promise you that somehow, some way, I am going to get him out of our lives. I’m just — I’m just frustrated that our last plan didn’t work.

Jack: Well, that wasn’t your fault.

Diane: No. But I don’t want you or anyone else to take that kind of risk again, like you did last time. Your days of committing larceny are over. But I’m afraid that it’s going to take something extreme like that to get rid of him. And I don’t know — I don’t know what that something is, but whatever it is, I’m going to be the one who takes the risk. I brought him into our lives, and I will drive him out.

Jack: I love to see that fire in your eyes. I love your devotion to us. But I’m starting to think maybe going on the offensive with stark is not the right solution.

Diane: Well, maybe the problem was we didn’t frame him for a big enough crime.

Jack: I disagree. No, I think maybe the opposite approach is the right way to go.

Nick: I will take care of everything sally needs until the baby arrives.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Look, I-I get that you’re together, and I know that you’re gonna be around. I’m not fighting that. And I will try to resist the urge to spontaneously check in. But, um, I would really like to come to some of your doctor’s appointments or ultrasounds.

Sally: Um, yeah. I’ll think about it.

Adam: Well, uh, I won’t overstay my welcome. I’m glad everything’s okay.

Sally: That was tense. I know adam’s trying to deal with this the best way he can, but it’s gonna be tough for him. And I know that you’re not overly sensitive to his feelings, but they’re gonna affect all of us.

Nick: We’re all in this together. I don’t like it, but it is what it is. I’ve had time to accept that I’m not the father of this baby. So I sympathize with him a bit more.

Sally: Yeah, well, the calmer things are, the better it is going to be for all of us.

Nick: I will do everything i can to keep things that way, sally, but when adam’s involved, you never know what to expect. You got to be careful. If your moderate to severe crohn’s disease

Sally: I mean, look, adam and I have had our fair share of drama, but with the baby involved, I don’t think he’d pull anything. I mean, what is it that you think I need to be careful about?

Nick: I know you have a soft spot for my brother, and i completely respect what the two of you had together. I know he’s in a tough spot. For him to ask to be involved in some of the doctor appointments is completely justified.

Sally: Yeah. I mean, we’re in agreement. So, what’s the problem?

Nick: I know you think you’re doing the right thing by letting him get involved in the pregnancy, but at the same time, you could just be inviting trouble.

Sally: In what way?

Nick: It doesn’t matter what his motives are. The more involved he is, the harder it’s gonna be for him to let go.

Sharon: Wow. No amount of swagger can cover up the way you’re feeling right now. The whole world can see it. You want to talk?

Adam: Sharon, I am… I’m trying to be a good guy here. I’m trying to handle the situation with sally and the baby with class, poise, and grace, but —

Sharon: But you’re still adam newman.

Adam: I don’t know if I can.

Diane: What are you thinking?

Jack: I am merely proposing that we pretend that man does not exist.

Diane: How can we do that? He’s sending packages to the house.

Jack: We don’t open them. When we see him in town, we walk the other way. We don’t talk about him, let him live in our heads. We take away his power by not giving him power in the first place.

Diane: So just a change of attitude?

Jack: Look, I promise we will stay safe and protected.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Jack: But we will let our security team and the authorities worry about jeremy stark. In the meantime, we live our lives to the fullest, enjoy every single moment. That man cannot intimidate us if we don’t allow him to.

Diane: Well, it — it sounds good in theory, but he’S…

[ Sighs ]

Jack: We have just been saying how special life is, how everything is falling so perfectly into place. We are happy. The kids are good. Our grandson is joy personified. You were right. Nate: What do you think about mash ups?

Audra: What do you mean? Like korean barbecue tacos or like —

Nate: Like country rock.

Audra: You like country?

Nate: Are you kidding me? How could you not? It’s got everything — heart, soul, relatable stories. What I’m saying is, unexpected combinations can change people’s perspectives. Hip-hop and opera, samurai films and spaghetti westerns. Essentially, we’re all more alike than we are different.

Audra: I like that sentiment.

Nate: That’s what I want to do with our properties.

Audra: Mix genres.

Nate: Add to them. Give the people a taste of the unexpected, something they might think they don’t like but make it more appealing. If we rely on algorithms, we’re just giving people what they’re used to. We need to open their minds to new ideas.

Audra: How do you suppose we do that?

Nate: Ooh, that’s the fun part. We blow it all up.

Victoria: [ Knocks on door ] I hope I’m not interrupting.

Nate: No, we were just going over our content-development strategies.

Devon: Okay, so you’re going to go that low. Are you proud of yourself for what you’re doing?

Lily: I’m sorry. Do you think this lawsuit takes you to higher ground? You’re suing us to take back control of your company, so why shouldn’t I do the same? Or, you know, to paraphrase what you said, I’m trying to stop you from tearing down everything that I’ve built and what I’ve achieved with chancellor-winters. So you wanted a war? This is it.

Audra: Thank you.

Elena: Hey, can I get an espresso to go?

Audra: Elena, hi.

Elena: Audra, hey. So how are you settling in at newman?

Audra: Oh, everything’s great. Except for the coffee. Where would I be without crimson lights?

Elena: Best in town.

Audra: Mm. Maybe I should grab a cup of coffee for nate before I go. You know, that man works so hard. Always thinking. So many game-changing ideas.

Elena: Nate’s very ambitious.

Audra: Yep. Probably the same dynamic as when he was a surgeon, right? Everyone’s dying for his approval or to hear his ideas or pick his brain about new projects. I can already tell I’m going to learn so much working under him.

Elena: Yeah, nate’s always been the kind of person who’s great at everything.

Audra: Yeah, you know, it’s refreshing to work with someone who knows what he wants and how to command that from the people around him.

Elena: Sounds like you really enjoy working with nate.

Audra: Mm, absolutely. You know, we’ve got an easy rapport. He’s really nurturing, but exacting, too. And he can be quite the taskmaster, but he makes it fun. He’s a good partner.

Elena: I always thought so.

Audra: But all work dynamics are different, you know? As close as nate and I are, it doesn’t compare to his connection with victoria.

Victoria: If you take a look at these numbers and then you plug in the projection over the next few quarters, you’ll see how everything in this sector is on the rise.

Nate: It looks promising.

Victoria: Yeah, I think that everything is right on track. We just need to tweak a few things, and then we should see some improvements in the next few…

[ Chuckles ] I’m sorry. I should’ve brought my own tablet. I feel like I’m cramping your style.

Nate: No. No, no, you’re good.

Victoria: Yeah, just play around with this data a little bit and see how it works for you.

Nate: I will do.

Victoria: And, you know, if you apply this to all the projects that you’re working on, you will get a grasp of where you’ll be in the next few quarters, for sure.

Victoria: Yeah. Is everything okay?

Nate: No. Uh… maybe this is a good time for us to discuss what’s going on. Between us.

Tucker: I’m not in the least bit… resentful that you’ve bested me in this situation.

Ashley: Mm-hmm.

Tucker: I’m more than happy to implement the changes that you’ve suggested. I just feel like it’s a little… it’s just not a good idea to get involved in a situation so inherently manipulative. Hmm? What do you think? See how I’m evolving past that kind of behavior?

Ashley: Yeah. Good answer.

Tucker: Okay.

Ashley: Mm-hmm.

Tucker: I’m going to keep you abreast of the situation with devon.

Ashley: Yeah, you got to focus on devon.

Ashley: Wait one second. I spoke with victor and victoria, actually.

Tucker: Did you?

Ashley: I did, yeah. They accused me of purchasing your debt.

Tucker: Ah. And did you confirm or deny it?

Ashley: Mm.

Tucker: You confirmed it?

Ashley: I did not, of course. And victor didn’t believe me. He thought I did purchase your debt so that I could punish you.

Tucker: And victoria?

Ashley: She believes that my motives are more benign, I think. But regardless, they’re very anxious to get their hands on your company.

Tucker: That’s not news.

Ashley: What is news is that they’re willing to pay top dollar. Far, far more than it’s worth. What do you think?

Ashley: Selling to the newmans would put you back in control financially.

Tucker: Mm.

Ashley: You can start all over again, right? You wouldn’t have a care in the world.

Tucker: No, not a care.

Ashley: Mnh-mnh.

Tucker: I could travel. I could, uh… I could have endless excitement. Fast cars. Fast women. When cold symptoms keep you up, You wanted to find out if i would abandon my plan to sell to devon and go for the big bucks instead, didn’t you?

Ashley: Well, you, originally, were planning to sell to the newmans.

Tucker: Yes, I know, and if I did, I’d have more money than god, but then I’d be alone. Okay? So if I’m going to make this deal, I choose whichever door leads to you.

Tucker: Being with you is worth more.

Devon: I just — let me be clear about what you’re saying here, ’cause I want to make sure I understand. Before, you would say that, by me removing hamilton-winters from this partnership, I’d be devaluing both companies, but, in reality, you’re just worried about me devaluing your accomplishments.

Lily: Why can’t both things be true?

Devon: Oh, they can be, but, I mean, if we’re just trying to protect our businesses here, why am I the only bad guy?

Lily: Because you signed a contract. You agreed to the merger. So it’s one company. So I’m doing what needs to be done. And you know what? We are both going to lose money, we’re both going to lose time, we’re probably going to lose our dignity, but you know who’s going to walk away with nothing? It’s going to be you.

Devon: Lily, I didn’t want this fight. I didn’t — I never wanted to fight with you. I just wanted my business and the company that I created with my father. That’s it.

Lily: Devon, you have got to stop acting like you are the only one who can carry on his legacy.

Devon: Well, why am I the only one trying to protect the company that he left behind?

Lily: Saving hamilton-winters is not going to bring dad back. And if it did, I would be right there with you, fighting. But it’s not. So you’re wrong. And if it takes a judge to prove that to you, then so be it.

Devon: So this is you just saying you don’t give a damn?

Lily: Actually, no, it’s the opposite. My dad was more than a name, and he was definitely more than a company. He transcends that. So, you know what? Start a new company. Or take the money that we offered you and retire. I don’t care. But if you go down this path, I guarantee you will regret it.

Devon: I never thought I’d say this in a million years, but I’m almost glad neil isn’t here to see who you’ve turned into.

Lily: [ Scoffs ]

Elena: Um… nate and victoria have been friends for a long time. I think he’s always admired her business acumen, and she hired him after he left chancellor-winters, so I think it’s only natural that he’d be grateful.

Audra: Mm. Definitely a lot of gratitude going on.

Elena: Yeah, I think that he should be appreciative. Just like you seem to be since nate hired you after you were let go.

Audra: Yeah, but I’m hardly a neophyte in the business world. But, nate, now, I have to hand it to him. The way he’s been able to close that hierarchy gap between him and victoria, they are so in sync it’s crazy. It’s like they were destined to be partners. Business partners, of course.

Elena: I’m glad he has such a supportive boss.

Audra: Yeah. It’s a shame he didn’t have that at chancellor when he was working with family.

Elena: I’m not sure that’s appropriate to discuss.

Audra: You’re right. Family dynamics can be tricky. Relatives don’t always have the strongest bonds. But, you know, it’s funny. When you have the right person by your side, just everything falls into place regardless of what their relationship is to you. Nate must be that person for victoria. The real deal.

Elena: And what do you mean by that?

Audra: Well, nate may only be in charge of one division now, but it’s pretty clear victoria has much bigger plans for him.

Victoria: Must we discuss the elephant in the room?

Nate: [ Chuckles ] If we’re going to get any work done. Look, I’ll start. I feel a certain attraction to you, but I shouldn’T.

Victoria: Because of elena. What’s going on between the two of you? Maybe whatever it is will clarify what’s going on between the two of us.

Nate: That’s the problem. Elena and I are in a good place, for the first time in a long while.

Victoria: And yet?

Nate:I’ve crossed a line.

Victoria: Twice.

Nate: Yes. [ Clears throat ] Multiple times.

Victoria: So that’s a problem?

Nate: I think there have been some mixed messages.

Victoria: Yes, it seems like the wires are definitely crossed. But not for me. I know what I want. However, I’m unencumbered, and I’m free to get involved with whoever I want. But, unfortunately, it’s not the same for you.

Nate: I apologize for this.

Victoria: Don’t apologize. Just figure out what you want because whatever happens or doesn’t happen is entirely up to you. (Vo) the shape that stole your heart

Nate: Look, I can’t deny feeling an intense connection. As if the job weren’t exciting enough, knowing I get to see you during the day…

Victoria: Yeah, it’s a pleasant bonus for me, too.

Nate: But I ultimately lost my career as a surgeon because of an impulse I acted on.

Victoria: So your concern is about your job?

Nate: My concern is about all the above. Business. Personal. The man I need to be.

Victoria: A man who’s faithful to his girlfriend. So who am I to you?

Nate: You’re…irresistible. Intoxicating. And you make me feel powerful.

Victoria: But you’re with elena.

Nate: And I can’t hurt her the way she and I hurt devon.

Victoria: Well, that’s very admirable.

Nate: So no matter what I may or may not be feeling, we can’t ever kiss again.

Victoria: Did we kiss? I’m sorry. I’ve been so busy. It must have just slipped my mind. Was it good?

Nate: Unforgettable. But I would hate to see what kind of negative impact this could have on our personal lives.

Victoria: Why would it? We won’t tell anyone. And in the future, I will not kiss you, and you will not kiss me.

Nate: Agreed.

Victoria: And we’ll be sure to keep a safe distance away from each other and avoid eye contact at all times.

Nate: Contact of any kind.

Victoria: You know, there’s one other thing to consider. You say that what you and elena did caused you to leave your career in the medical field and come here. But maybe here is where you belonged all along. Maybe you need more than she’s able to give you.

Elena: So what do you think victoria has in store for nate?

Audra: I am not privy to that level of information. In fact, I was just kicked out of meeting with nate because victoria wanted to have a word in private.

Elena: About what?

Audra: Uh, data, numbers.

Elena: But wouldn’t you be included in that discussion since you are the coo?

Audra: Yeah, I thought that was rude, too. But when victoria wants to meet with nate, I make myself scarce.

Elena: Hm. And, um, does has happen often?

Audra: Look, all I know is that victoria must see something truly magnificent in him to give him so much one-on-one attention.

Elena: I suppose.

Audra: He’ll be moving up in the newman organization any day now. You should be so proud of your boyfriend.

Tucker: You expected to see my wheels turning as i formulated my grand plan to sell mccall to newman for millions more than it’s worth, didn’t you?

Ashley: I thought it was a strong possibility.

Tucker: I’ve never been happier to disappoint you.

Ashley: Won’t be the first time. I’m sure it won’t be the last.

Tucker: Ashley, the only thing I’m interested in at this point is to have a fresh start with the two people who matter the most to me in life, you and devon. That’s it.

Ashley: Okay, tell me this. What happens if you can’t convince devon to buy your company? And I’m not convinced that you actually want to be a better man. What if we both turn our backs on you? What then?

Tucker: I would still forge ahead with my mission of self-improvement. Here’s the thing. No matter who purchases mccall, the sale will provide me with the means of a fresh start. Uh… the way lived my life up until now, yes, has made me rich, but I’m completely devoid of the things that matter, and a major loss has forced my hand, finally.

Ashley: So to be a better person, you need to be abandoned completely?

Tucker: Is that what you’re planning to do? If I can’t win devon over, are you just going to turn your back on me?

Devon: It doesn’t feel good, does it?

Lily: Sorry, the comment of dad being ashamed of me?

Devon: Yeah. Same thing you said to me last time we got an argument about this.

Lily: No, I actually wish he were here to see what I’ve become, because I know that he would be incredibly proud of me.

Devon: Are you sure about that?

Lily: Absolutely. It is so easy to be a copy of him, but I am out of his shadow. I’m forging my own path.

Devon: Okay, so, what, is that a dig at me?

Lily: You can take it however you want, but you thought that you could make demands, and I would just roll over? Well, I am sorry, but, no. This lawsuit is going to define everything. It’s going to change our companies, the way the business world sees us, our relationship moving forward. But in the end, you will see that I won.

Devon: Right, you won by any means necessary, too, right?

Lily: Well, it’s not personal. It’s business. Remember? You kept telling me that.

Devon: Yeah, you’re ridiculous. You’re unbelievable, actually.

Lily: Sorry, I’m unbelievable?

Devon: Yes, you are.

Lily: You’re the one who won’t honor a contract that you signed. You won’t take the money that we offered you. You want to burn everything to the ground. So here we are.

Devon: Yeah, here we are, with you willing to sacrifice our relationship for a business deal that went bad.

Lily: Because you won’t loosen your grip on dad’s company.

Devon: And what’s wrong with me trying to preserve his memory like that, lily? Really? What is it? I mean, after everything he taught us, after everything he did for us, how can you turn your back on him like that?

Lily: [ Sighs ] Devon, I am warning you. Do not go there. And you still have your biological father, tucker.

Devon: You have your biologic– you got malcolm.

Lily: Tucker is here in genoa city. He wants a relationship with you. You have a young son who you get to see every single day. My children have their own life. This is all I have left.

Devon: What are you talking about it’s all you — you have me. I’m here in town with you. And I never wanted you to feel alone in any of this. You’re the one that’s made the decision to side with jill in this ipo move. So what was I meant to do?

Lily: Honor the contract that you signed.

Devon: Yeah. You know, say whatever you want about tucker. He will never fill neil’s shoes.

Lily: And neither will you. You know, you want to say all of these things about how family is so important to you, but yet you’re willing to throw me away for a company. So in my mind, you are a hypocrite. I’m sholeh and I lost 75 pounds with golo.

So maybe you guys should head over there, because if you can’t keep it down, I’m going to have to ask you to leave.

Devon: I’m sorry.

Lily: Yeah, I’m — I’m sorry, abby. I’m sorry.

Abby: Louise just texted me that we’re out of diapers, so I think we should go grab some. We’ll get them much faster if we go get them.

Devon: We can’t order them, have them delivered?

Abby: No, come on. We’re going to go get them. Thank you.

Elena: Of course, I am proud of nate. Uh, his new career has just been an adjustment for both of us.

Audra: You know, to me, it seems perfectly natural for him to pivot from medicine to business. To be a doctor or a ceo, you have to have a certain confidence, you know, that your decision is the right one, and everything’s going to work out in the end.

Elena: Yeah, he certainly has that.

Audra: He’s a born leader. You know, if he ever ran for office, he’d have thousands of supporters. I mean, mostly women, with those eyes and a smile like that. Not that I need to tell you, since you know what he’s like.

Elena: I certainly do.

Audra: I didn’t upset you, did I?

Elena: No, not at all. I just realized the time.

Audra: Well, this was fun. We should do it again — soon.

Elena: Yeah, my schedule’s pretty packed, but if something opens up, I’ll let you know.

Tucker: Nice. You make it look so easy.

Tucker: So, on a scale from a minor sibling squabble to total annihilation, how would you rank the little spat between devon and lily?

Audra: Why do you even care about what…

[ Chuckles ] Okay. You think you can step in and be the dad that devon so desperately needs?

Tucker: I haven’t given up hope that I might be back in his good graces someday soon, yeah.

Audra: By exploiting the brother/sister cage match? Are you offering devon the keys to mccall unlimited?

Tucker: Why don’t you answer my question first? How bad is this fight?

Audra: Look, I have limited firsthand knowledge, but from what I’ve heard, they’re going scorched-earth. Devon and lilly’s relationship may not survive the war. Now, tell me, are you offering your company to devon?

Tucker: I already have.

Victoria: I’m not going to apologize for being direct.

Nate: No, no, I find it refreshing.

Victoria: That’s good, because I approach my personal life the same way that i approach my business life. I’m very straightforward.

Nate: So what are your expectations for us, moving forward?

Victoria: I hope that we enjoy a very long and fruitful partnership.

Nate: As do I.

Victoria: In order to do that, we’re going to have to be fully transparent with one another. So there aren’t any complications or miscommunications.

Nate: That is a solid approach. I will do my best to follow it.

Victoria: Okay.

Nate: So in the spirit of full disclosure… …I admire you, victoria. You’re intelligent, driven, powerful… beautiful. But I am in love with elena.

Audra: Victoria. Good. I was hoping you’d still be here. I hope I’m not interrupting your meeting, but I have news about mccall.

Victoria: What have you heard?

Audra: Well, it appears he’s changed course and wants to sell the company to his son.

Victoria: Well, that confirms exactly what my father and i suspected. Ashley bought up tucker’s debt.

Nate: Why? Is this a power move by jabot?

Victoria: Sounds like more of a move by ashley alone. She probably wanted the debt acquisition so she could strong-arm tucker into turning things around with devon. Seems that she wants tucker to redeem himself, which is surprisingly noble, in a lopsided kind of way.

Audra: If she’s expecting him to change, I mean, she’ll be deeply disappointed.

Nate: We’re apparently gonna be disappointed, too, since this means we’re losing out on acquiring mccall.

Victoria: Makes things more difficult, but it’s not impossible. Besides, I like a challenge.

Nate: What’s your plan?

Audra: We have to convince devon that buying mccall would be disastrous and that it would be a financial black hole from which he would never be able to extricate himself. And who better to relay that bad news than his cousin nate?

Abby: Okay, I couldn’t possibly have heard you right.

Devon: Oh, you did, though. Lily has hired amanda to represent them in court.

Abby: I thought amanda left chancellor.

Devon: She did. She did, but she’s the perfect weapon to aim at hamilton-winters — and to aim at me ’cause, you know, that’s really what this is about. Let’s not pretend like it isn’T.

Abby: Okay, I get that this feels like a personal shot, but why would lily do that?

Devon: Because she wants to win. That’s why. And she will obviously do whatever it takes. And she thinks it’s gonna rattle me in court. I’m just wondering what she and amanda have up their sleeves. You know? They’ll probably have a damn hologram of neil and fill the courtroom with everybody else I’ve wronged in my life.

Abby: That would be a very short list.

Devon: I… I’m dreading this entire thing now.

Abby: Tell me something. Are you worried that you’re gonna lose the lawsuit? Or is this about having to come face-to-face with amanda again?

Lily: I am beyond mortified to have an argument like that in public.

Daniel: The public will recover. How are you doing?

Lily: Not good. It’s like every time devon and i are around each other, all we do is try to hurt each other. And I don’t know how much more i can take.

Daniel: Yeah, well, famil seems to have a way of pushing buttons like no other person can.

Lily: It’s just, this merger was supposed to bring us closer together as a family, and it’s torn us apart. Nate is gone. Devon wants nothing to do with me.

Daniel: So, what are you gonna do?

Lily: [ Scoffs ] I don’t know. I just — I have to stop believing that i can salvage things. It’s like I have to fight to save chancellor-winters because it’s all I have left. So I have to fight with everything that I have. Your heart is the beat of life.

Daniel: Seems a little extreme. You’re more than chancellor-winters. You have a lot of people in your life that love you.

Lily: Not really. I mean, my parents are gone. My relationship with billy is over. I don’t know if devon and nate and I will ever fix anything. My kids are living their own life. Like, what’s left but my career?

Daniel: What about your friends? What about me?

Lily: Yeah, I mean, you’ve been the better part of the past couple of months. If only you could make this lawsuit go away.

Daniel: I wish I had that power.

Lily: I know things are gonna get really ugly.

Daniel: I don’t doubt that for a second. Are you sure it’s worth the agony?

Devon: It’s not like I have a choice about facing amanda again, you know?

Abby: Well, I have never really thought about this before, but I feel like I’m the lucky one in the fallout of all of our breakups.

Devon: What makes you say that?

Abby: Because I have to see chance. I have to communicate with him because of dominic. And all of that awkwardness, everything that was difficult between us when amanda and chance walked in on us together — well, it’s gotten a lot less. But you — you haven’t seen amanda since she broke things off. I mean, you haven’t crossed paths.

Devon: Oh, I know. Believe me. And then now the next time I see her is gonna be in a courtroom. And it’s gonna hurt.

Abby: I’m sorry. This stress is the last thing you need on top of everything else that you’re going through.

Devon: That’s what lily’s banking on. She wants this to be a painful process financially, professionally, and personally.

Abby: Are you sure that this lawsuit is worth the destruction that it will cause? I think you should reconsider tucker’s offer.

Ashley: Hey. I hope you’re calling with good news.

Tucker: As in, I can’t get you off my mind?

Ashley: As in, you got devon to sign on the dotted line.

Tucker: Uh, not quite.

Ashley: Tucker.

Tucker: Not yet, I mean to say. I’m on a fact-finding mission.

Ashley: Okay, but you have to proceed honestly. No interfering, no manipulations of any kind.

Tucker: Fear not. I’m simply collecting information on a person I might do a deal with. That’s just good business practice. I want to make sure that when devon contemplates buying mccall that he believes it’ll be the solution to all his problems.

Ashley: Okay. Call me when you get it done.

Nate: You want me to sabotage devon’s purchase of mccall unlimited?

Victoria: Yes, that is the mission. I assume that you’re going to accept it.

Nate: I’m not on good terms with either one of my cousins. I doubt I could even convince them that the sky is blue these days.

Victoria: I’m sure that you can find a way to put a stop to devon reconciling with tucker.

Nate: Still, that wouldn’t feel right. My willingness to help you acquire a controlling interest in chancellor-winters via the company’s ipo is what started all this tension in my family in the first place.

Victoria: But you didn’t cause the current conflict between devon and lily. It’s not your fault that they can’t decide whether or not to proceed with the ipo.

Nate: Still, I hate that they are fighting. And maybe this offer from tucker can help end this feud.

Victoria: You want to bring peace to the winters, which will only happen if devon agrees to give up his claim in neil’s company in favor of running tucker’S.

Nate: Honestly, on a personal level, I’d like to see that happen.

Victoria: But professionally, it’s not in our best interests.

Diane: Thank you. Oh, good morning, kyle.

Jack: Son. Thank you for joining us on such tice

kyle: I can’t stay long. I’m pretty busy. Everything with marchetti is on overdrive, especially now that we’re bringing on board the textile mills we acquired from victor.

Jack: I am well aware of the value of bringing manufacturing in house. That’s not what we want to talk about.

Kyle: I can tell by the looks on your faces it’s pretty serious.

Jack: Diane and I are going off the grid for a little while. In fact, we’re on our way out of town right now.

Diane: I know it’s short notice, but I do need to take this time away from work. Maybe you could explain the situation to summer for me? It’s, um, extenuating circumstances.

Kyle: Which are what, exactly?

Diane: We’re leaving to avoid any future psychological torture from jeremy stark.

Kyle: [ Scoffs ] Wait. What kind of harm can he do from a prison cell?

Jack: He is out of jail. They could not make the charges against him stick, so he’s been released.

Diane: And he came right back here to genoa city.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Summer: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: Hello. Excuse me. [ Chuckles ] I’m so glad it’s you who answered the door.

Summer: Mom, what are you doing here? I mean, harrison’s at preschool and I’m pretty sure jack doesn’t want anything to do with you and I —

Phyllis: Okay, listen, you don’t have to remind me that I’m not welcome here. I totally understand. I get it. I came here to turn things around.

Summer: I’m not even sure that I want to know how you intend on pulling that off.

Phyllis: Well, it’s simple. You’re my daughter. I mean, don’t you wish that things could go back to how we used to be? Maybe we could just go somewhere and have some coffee and just talk. Just…talk. You’re the light of my life. Do I need to remind you of that? Alright, well, I’m not gonna take “no” for an answer. I’m not gonna do that. I’m gonna park myself on your sofa, and I’m not moving.

[ Knock on door ]

Victor: Come in.

Ashley: Hi.

Victor: Ashley. Thank you for coming.

Ashley: Sure. Uh, your text was kind of vague. Why did you want to meet with me?

Victor: Yeah. It’s a business matter. Tucker mccall came to us and made a proposal. He suggested that perhaps we would buy his company.

Victoria: He was carrying around a serious amount of debt. He was looking to unload mccall, and then suddenly and mysteriously somebody bought up the debt.

Ashley: Fascinating. What does that have to do with me?

Victor: We were just wondering who might have the financial wherewithal and the desire to make such a deal.

Victoria: My mother shared a theory on who that someone might be.

Ashley: Who is it?

Victor: You.

Tucker: Hey.

Devon: Hello.

Tucker: Thank you for coming.

Devon: Like I said on the phone, you got 30 minutes to say whatever you want to say to me. And try not to lie.

Tucker: Okay. Yes, you made your time limit very clear. Eh. And as much as I deserve your fury, I think once you’ve heard what I have to say that ultimately you’ll be glad that you decided to meet with me. Kyle: Stark not only beat the charges, but he had the nerve to show his face in genoa city again? When did this happen? How long have you known?

Diane: We only found out ourselves a couple days ago when we ran into him here, actually. And then yesterday he had a package delivered to the house.

Kyle: What kind of package?

Diane: No, it’s okay. It was — it was harmless. But he clearly sent it to rattle us and send a message that he was back and that he was planning to mess with me.

Kyle: The man is a menace. He’s sending potentially dangerous packages to our home where our family lives? Can’t the police do anything about this?

Jack: Unfortunately, he is considered an innocent man right now. That won’t last too long ’cause we all know he’s anything but innocent. But chance knows he’s back in town, knows he has an agenda, and unfortunately has lost patience with your mother and me.

Kyle: Why is that?

Jack: Stark is convinced that we are the ones that set him up, and chance appears to agree with him.

Kyle: What are you saying? The gcpd is just going to ignore that a known criminal is in town sending potentially dangerous packages to our house?

Jack: I will tell you what chance told us. The police are not going to get involved unless there is an actual threat. The package turned out to be a book, a memento of his time with diane in L.A. The police can hardly arrest him for that, and there isn’t enough evidence that he’s the one that put it there in the first place.

Kyle: The man’s presence is a threat.

Jack: I agree. That is why security has been beefed up and they are on full alert. I assure you the abbott home is safe and secure.

Diane: But jack suggested that we go away in order to not be able to run into him or get caught up in any of his insidious mind games.

Kyle: You’re letting him run you out of town again.

Diane: Well, honestly, i don’t see it like that. And you shouldn’t, either.

Jack: Your mother’s right. We are leaving the house so that stark isn’t tempted to find other ways to come at us.

Diane: Yeah, and it’s not all doom and gloom. I mean, jack and I are going to use this time for ourselves, to get away from everything and celebrate our reunion.

Jack: Look, a little time away will give us some perspective, and maybe we’ll come up with another way to handle things. But right now the jet awaits and we’ve got to be going. With any luck, stark will get bored and move on while we are having a romantic getaway.

Summer: I appreciate your, um, well-intentioned, albeit, uh, forceful invitation, but, mom, I don’t have time to have coffee. I’ve got to get to the office.

Phyllis: The office? This is more important than work. Come on. It’s more important than work. You only have one mom. Okay?

[ Sighs ] Listen, I am sorry about the other day. I apologize. I was upset and I was hurt. I never, never meant to say that I would walk out of your life forever. Don’t you want to go back to the relationship that we had? Don’t — don’t you want that? I mean, you have to want that, summer.

Summer: Mom, of course I wish things were different.

Phyllis: Okay, good, good. Okay. That’s enough.

[ Chuckles ] So let’s make them different. Let’s do that. We can fix this. We can get past this.

Summer: I’m sorry. I just — I really don’t have the time or the energy to get into it with you right now. And, you know, just so you know, I’ve talked to daniel since the last time we saw each other, and he filled me in on all of the fallout from you butting into his life, too.

Phyllis: Oh. Wow. So, this is how it’s gonna be? You and daniel against me, talking together, commiserating against me?

Summer: I’m not gonna speak for daniel, but I can’t just brush aside my feelings. You interfering with stark — that could have put us all in serious danger. And you interfering in daniel’s life, both professionally and personally, could have ruined his deal with chancellor-winters and caused irreparable damage in his relationship with heather.

Phyllis: Okay, got it, got it, got it. I mean, all I’m hearing from you is “could have, could have, could have.” It didn’t happen. It certainly didn’t happen. Why do you and your brother refuse to see that?

Summer: Because it’s not the point! It’s not the point. Mom, this is just another example of how you choose to operate. And it doesn’t matter how many times you promise that you’re gonna make it right or that you’re gonna change. It’s really — it’s actually — it’s pointless. And, honestly, I just — I can’t keep showing up for it.

Phyllis: Okay, this is completely unfair. Do you know that all a mother wants to do is protect her child? That’s all I want to do. I want to protect you and daniel. I want to protect you from diane. I want to help daniel fix his relationship with heather, who i don’t like, but I want to help him fix it and fix his relationship with his daughter. Wh– why is that wrong?

Summer: That.

[ Scoffs ] That right there. That’s why we can’t just sit and have coffee and pour our hearts out and pretend like everything’s gonna be okay — because it’s not. There’s always an excuse with you. Mom, please, just for once in your life, just admit… you screwed up.

Ashley: Now, why would you think that I would buy tucker’s debt? And if I did, why do you care either way?

Victoria: After learning that his debt had been acquired, tucker pulled out of a deal to sell mccall to newman.

Ashley: Oh. Okay. Well, that answers why you care, but why would you think I would do such a thing?

Victoria: You and tucker have a long history. Maybe your scheme to get information out of him about diane — maybe it brought back some of those old feelings. Or maybe you got sentimental and you bought his story that he was a changed man.

Ashley: Oh, come on. Victoria, I’m not some doe-eyed ingenue that’s gonna just fall for tucker’s dumb lines.

Victor: She is far too smart to believe anything that tucker mccall has to say, right?

Ashley: Exactly.

Victor: And I seriously doubt she harbors any illusions about that man having changed.

Ashley: Right. So it’s preposterous to think that I would make some kind of a huge and expensive gesture like that to buy up his debt. So, I guess we’re done here.

Victor: No, no, no. Please don’t go. Ashley, please don’t go.

Devon: Okay. Well, a life-changing proposition is exactly the kind of manipulation I’m not interested in, so…

Tucker: Forgive me. That was a bit hyperbolic.

[ Chuckles ] It’s funny. Despite my best intentions, i always seem to get everything wrong with you. One of the things I’m working hard to change.

Devon: Well, you know, saying that you want to improve our relationship and actually doing it are two different things, and I don’t know if you realize that.

Tucker: [ Sighs ] I-I got a lot wrong. I made some big mistakes when i came back to town. And not just with you — with ashley. The two people that I expressly came back in order to impress and reconnect with. I did. I went about it all wrong. And now everything’s come crashing down, and I’ve only got myself to blame for that.

Devon: That’s one thing we can both agree on.

Tucker: [ Chuckles ] Yeah. I tell you, it’s been a relief to just drop the pretense of success and admit that I failed. Dropping this charade has given me energy and it’s given me the time to — to try to fix what I’ve broken. And not just for you and ashley, but for myself.

Devon: Right. That all sounds great. I’ve heard you say the exact same thing before with same conviction in your voice. So, I mean, why should I believe you this time?

Tucker: Because this time I’m gonna put my money where my mouth is.

Devon: Really?

Tucker: Yeah. I’ve decided to divest myself of everything that represents my old way of life. I’m selling mccall unlimited.

Devon: Hmm.

Tucker: I’m gonna wipe the slate clean and start new. And I would like nothing more than for you to take over my company. We’re done

Devon: Well, this is — yeah, this is certainly a new angle for you. What would make you think that I’d want to buy your company?

Tucker: Okay, I’m gonna be honest with you. It is failing in some areas. Um, but for someone with, um — with vision and creativity, uh, there’s still value and there’s still the infrastructure to make it quite lucrative, if it’s managed well. And I just know that that person is you.

Devon: How do you know? How do you know that person is me?

Tucker: Well, I built the company from the ground up, and I know you can relate to that. It was born out of my passion for music and the entertainment industry. And, uh [Chuckles] Although you didn’t get much from me, you definitely inherited that. And, um… well, ultimately, it would just mean the world to me to see you at the helm.

Devon: It sounds to me like you want me to do you a favor and buy you out of your debt.

Tucker: No.

Devon: No?

Tucker: No, someone’s already done it. Yeah.

Devon: Mm.

Tucker: And although I’ve received some very lucrative offers, I would offer you the, uh — the [Chuckles] Friends and family price ’cause I just know you would run the company with integrity, intelligence, and heart.

Victor: Maybe you made the move as some sort of power play, you know, a revenge tactic.

Ashley: Well, that’s an interesting theory. What would be the end game?

Victor: Tucker would be beholden to whoever owns his debt.

Ashley: I see. Well, if that’s your line of thinking, then you should definitely consider devon. He has more motivation than anybody to want to get back at his father.

Victor: Really?

Ashley: Well, of course. When tucker came back to town, he wasn’t just after jabot. He was after chancellor-winters. When devon found out about that, he was furious. I should know. I was there when he confronted his father, not to mention that he has all the capital he needs to make it happen.

Victoria: You know, i considered that angle, too, but it just doesn’t seem like devon’s style. And besides that, I heard he cut all ties with his father. No, whoever bought tucker’s debt enjoys the game enough to keep playing it, which makes you our most likely suspect.

Kyle: Stark. I heard you were back in town. How do you even have the nerve to show your face in genoa city again?

Jeremy: Well, you’re not the first one to say that. Why do you find it so hard to believe that I’d want to come back to this charming little town? Great food, beautiful people. Just like your wife, summer, and that adorable little kid of yours.

Kyle: Hey, stay away from my family. And stop sending my mother tokens of your obsession. Do not make me tell you that again.

Jeremy: Ohh. That sounds like a threat.

Kyle: No, it’s not a threat. It’s a promise. If you have an ax to grind, you grind it with me.

Jeremy: Relax. I’ve decided to forgive and forget everything. In fact, I’d like to tell jack and diane that myself. I must have really spooked them the other day when I saw them,

if diane took the gift I sent the wrong way.

Kyle: So, you admit it. You sent the gift.

Jeremy: You wouldn’t happen to know where jack and diane are, would you?

Kyle: They left town. Flew out today. Won’t be back anytime soon. So you should just get the hell out of genoa city and don’t look back.

Phyllis: What are you talking about? I’ve owned up to plenty. I mean, all I’m doing is taking the blame for everything. I mean, that doesn’t seem to be enough. I’m here apologizing to you. I even admitted that I was the one who lured jeremy stark into town.

Summer: Yeah, and that you did it to help us. That’s — it’s not an apology, mom.

Phyllis: Well, that’s completely untrue. I mean, he asked me to find diane, and I refused to do that for him. I basically saved her life. I mean, all I see you doing is making allowances for diane, but you do nothing for me, and i don’t understand that. I’m your mother.

Summer: Yeah. You’re my mom. You are supposed to do right by me.

Phyllis: [ Exhales sharply ] Okay, summer, just — I-I can’T. Seriously. What about daniel? What about daniel? I mean, I’m taking the hit for all of his anger toward heather. I mean, it has nothing to do with me, but, hey, that’s what I do. I’m taking the hit. How come I’m always the one to blame, I’m always the one who’s doing the wrong thing?

Summer: Because it was your fault, mom. You did those things. You’re the one that made those bad choices all on your own.

Phyllis: We’ve all made bad choices, haven’t we, summer?

Summer: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: And by the way, are you getting in nikki’s face over this jeremy stark thing? ‘Cause she was in on it as well. Are you talking to your grandmother like this? I mean, by the way, she flew to los angeles to find dirt on diane jenkins. Yeah. She did that — on her own dime. But you’re not getting in her face, are you?

Summer: Obviously, I don’t approve of what she did, either.

Phyllis: Mm. Mm. How come she doesn’t get this, too? I know why. Because I fight. I stand up for what I believe, and I will not back down. And that’s how I am. And I will never change. I will never, ever change. I’m tired, summer. I am just so tired. Exhausted. Maybe at this point I’m the one who’s had enough.

Jeremy: Last-minute flight out of town? Sounds like your mother’s trying to relive some of our old adventures.

Kyle: She wants nothing to do with you.

Jeremy: You think I’d lose interest just because jack and diane are out of town?

Kyle: You should. Because what business do you have in genoa city that necessitates you hanging around indefinitely?

Jeremy: Why shouldn’t I stay? I’m in no rush. I have no place to be. That’s what it’s like when you spend years in federal prison. You lose your place in the world and you have to find another place. Well, genoa city could be that perfect spot. Very welcoming, present company excluded. I think I just found the perfect place to call home.

Kyle: Mm, you should think again because that would be a big mistake.

Jeremy: We’ll have to agree to disagree. Vacations don’t last forever. Sooner or later, you’ll end up right back where you started.

Summer: I guess we’ve both had just about enough.

[ Exhales sharply ] I really can’t keep having this argument with you, mom. You — you have a blind spot when it comes to your own issues. You know, I honestly believe that you think that you’re doing the right things for the right reasons and that you’re trying to help in your own way.

Phyllis: Glad you understand, summer.

Summer: But your actions are not helpful. It breaks my heart that you can’t see that.

Phyllis: [ Clears throat ]

Summer: You know [Sighs] I’ve watched you try to evolve my entire life. I was always that kid with the parent who was still trying to grow up themselves. And I was there for all of your failed relationships, with dad and with jack, and you always said that you were gonna grow and that you’d matured. And I always believed you, but inevitably you would go back to your old ways and things would just blow up all over again, just like they are now. And you know what? I should — [ Sighs ]

[ Voice breaking ] I know that i should just accept you for who you are, but… I keep hoping and you keep on letting me down and I —

[ Sighs ] I just feel like I-I need to protect myself from — from any more hurt and disappointment.

[ Sighs ]

Phyllis: [ Clears throat ]

Phyllis: [ Breathes deeply ]

Ashley: So, let’s just say that I did buy tucker’s debt. What would you intend to do about it?

Victoria: Newman remains very interested. We’d be willing to make a lucrative deal to buy the company and all of the debt. And not only would we make it worth tucker’s while. We would also make it worth your while. So, if it’s true and you are behind all of this, perhaps we should just negotiate directly with you.

Victor: I just don’t think that ashley wants to be beholden to tucker mccall for any length of time. I mean, you’ve had your fun with him. You’ve made him sweat, right? Now it’s time to make a deal.

Ashley: Wow. This has been fascinating, if for no other reason but to be reminded of how your mind works, victor. You shouldn’t be talking to me. Whatever tucker wants to do with his company is his business. Leave me out of it.

Victor: Thank you for coming by, ashley.

Devon: So, like, how do you see this all working out? What’s your big vision here? I buy your company and then what? You and I are bonded together for life?

Tucker: That bond already exists, doesn’t it? This would just be a bonus.

Devon: Right, but you’re — you’re expecting me to welcome you back into my life with open arms, right?

Tucker: Devon, I don’t have any expectations. None. I just wanted to offer you this safety net.

Devon: Why do I need a safety net?

Tucker: I happen to know that you’re in a very precarious business situation at the moment, um, the fight you’re having with your sister and jill over hamilton-winters. Who knows how that’s gonna go down?

Devon: I know how it’s gonna down, and it’s none of your business, really.

Tucker: That’s true. It isn’T. But I took a look at the available analytics, and legally the chancellor-winters merger — it’s rock-solid. So, uh, you winning back hamilton-winters at this point — it’s a long shot. The odds are it’s not gonna work out in your favor.

Devon: Well, I don’t need to hear your odds. So, thanks.

Tucker: Okay, but wouldn’t you like to have a powerhouse like mccall in your back pocket in case it does go sideways? It gives you something else to turn your attention to.

Devon: I’m not thinking like that. And it sounds like you’re betting on me to lose.

Tucker: No, no, no. On the contrary. I’m offering you a strategy that will ensure you come out on top. I mean, let’s say you do win hamilton-winters back and you’re helming my company. You’re gonna be at the helm of a company that will just leapfrog chancellor-winters and newman.

Devon: And why do you care if that happens?

Tucker: ‘Cause you’re my son. And seeing you succeed is what I care about most.

Devon: Well, I think that our, uh, 30 minutes is over.

Tucker: Oh. Indeed it is.

[ Sighs ] Well, thank you again for seeing me, and I hope you’ll at least think about my offer and run it by your inner circle. Run it by abby. I mean, I know she hates me, but, you know, she’s always had your best interests at heart. Okay, nice to see you, and

Jack: Well, when I came up with this brilliant plan, I was very thorough.

Diane: I’ll say. Making jeremy think that we’d flown off to who knows where in the jabot jet while we enjoy this romantic hideaway in the abbott cabin? Ah! The delicious irony.

Jack: Yeah, I thought so.

Diane: Mmm.

Jack: I hated that little charade with kyle, but you never know who’s listening.

Diane: I agree. It was safer that way.

Jack: So, I had the place stocked with, uh, you know, all the essentials and a — a few delicacies. We have enough here to vacation as long as we want. But for this to be a success, i need to get you to promise me something.

Diane: What’s that?

Jack: No more mention of jeremy stark. The whole reason for coming up here is to put the world behind us for a bit. Just you and me, no one else, least of all him.

Diane: Mm. I promise I will do my best not to think of anyone but the handsome and charming man right in front of me in this perfect place. Mmm. And that kiss was the perfect start.

Jack: Did I mention I have champagne?

Diane: Mm! [ Chuckles ] I am loving this escape.

Abby: Hey.

Devon: I’m glad you’re still here.

Abby: Yeah, I wanted to see how your talk with tucker went. What did he want?

Devon: Uh, boy. Mwah. You’re not gonna believe it. Tucker offered me, uh, his whole empire.

Abby: What?

Devon: Yeah. He said that he’s divesting himself so that he can start fresh and he wants to sell me mccall for a good price.

Abby: Why would he do that?

Devon: ‘Cause apparently he thinks that I have the passion and the integrity and the vision to lead his company in the right direction. And then he made an argument that, by me having mccall, it would be like an insurance policy so that I’d still have a company in case the lawsuit didn’t turn out the way I hope.

Abby: That’s a lot to consider.

Devon: Yeah. Yeah. And the real thing, though, to consider is who this offer is coming from — because given my history with tucker, you’ve got to question whether anything he says is sincere. You know that. Like, is he really trying to change? Does he really want to start fresh? Or is he just trying to manipulate me again?

[ Sighs ]

Abby: If the lawsuit does fail, I mean, this is a great backup plan. Mccall has name recognition. It has an amazing music division that you could work wonders with.

Devon: Right. Yeah, I know. Tucker said something similar to that.

Abby: Have you considered that you are the right person to lead mccall? Maybe this isn’t some sort of manipulation. Maybe this is a great offer.

Devon: I mean, the only way i would know is if I check the numbers. But he did also say that, as much as you hate him, your advice to me would be in my best interest. And he was right about that.

Abby: Well, I guess tucker isn’t wrong all of the time.

Devon: [ Chuckles ] Mm.

Abby: I think his offer is worth considering.

Ashley: So, did you pitch your heart out?

Tucker: Yeah, I know the ipo has been put on hold, and there are rumors of conflicts.

Ashley: Well, he’s suing to get hamilton-winters back, and he’s probably not going to win that battle, which means he’s going to be in a position of losing the company he bought with one father, but…

Tucker: He could have the company his other father built.

Ashley: Yes. Do you know what that would mean to him? What it would mean for your relationship with him?

Tucker: Yeah, I see the logic in it, but he’s not even speaking to me at the moment, so I can’t imagine he’d care about acquiring my company.

Ashley: That’s just an obstacle. I mean, think of it as a peace offering.

Tucker: Mm. “Son, I’m sorry I lied to you, but here’s my life’s work”? Is that what we’re going for?

Adam: Listen, really, I’m fine, okay? But, yes, I get it. Last time, I overindulged, I got a little sloppy, and I proposed, but, um…it was months ago. I’m not gonna make that same mistake.

Sally: Okay. Still, you’re not in great shape.

Adam: Really, I am fine. Okay? Yes, I’ve had a few drinks, but it’s just given me the courage to say some things that need to be said. Some things that you may want to hear. Okay? But it won’t get ugly. We can meet in the lobby on neutral ground. Is that okay, bro?

Nick: She can do whatever she wants. And that includes going downstairs and listening to your drunk rant. It’s up to her. If she asks my opinion, she’d be shutting the door in your face.

Adam: Listen, I promise, it’s not like that. I have something very real to discuss.

Victor: Now that adam has officially left jabot, I was hoping he would come right back to newman, you know? Because I want to mend fences with him.

Victor: He said he would come back under one condition.

Nikki: [ Scoffs ] Victoria’s job? That’s outrageous.

Victor: It is.

Nikki: Did he actually think you would consider it?

Victor: I think he was testing me.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] The two of you and your tests. I hope you knock that idea out of his head.

Victor: Yeah. But I said to him to be patient, that I would make a counteroffer.

Nikki: Oh. You mean mccall unlimited?

Victor: Yeah.

Nikki: So you want to acquire tucker’s company, hand it over to adam. That is a very expensive consolation prize.

Victor: You’re right. But he was intrigued.

Nikki: As well he should be.

Victor: Yeah. But my plan has hit a snag. Seems someone else found out that tucker mccall is in trouble, financially. Someone else bought his debt before we had a chance to.

Tucker: You want a nightcap?

Ashley: Uh, yes, I do. Thank you.

Tucker: I definitely need something to take the edge off.

Ashley: Really? Why? Are you feeling overwhelmed by my proposal?

Tucker: Yeah. Can you blame me? It’s a big idea.

Ashley: You like big ideas.

Tucker: In theory, yeah. And I do like the — the thoughtful healing aspect of this one, but I’m still feeling blindsided by the fact that you now own most of my debt and thereby own most of me.

Ashley: Yes, I do. Thank you very much. Why don’t you think of me as your patron, though? Somebody who is supporting you on your path to self-improvement?

Tucker: And yet I get the sense that you’re holding a metaphorical dagger behind your back and you’re just waiting for the right moment to plunge it into my chest.

Ashley: Gee, that sounds like so much fun. Instead, why don’t you think of this as, um… business. Because I own your debt, which means you have to listen to me. So I’m actually not suggesting that you sell to devon. I’m demanding it.

Tucker: I see.

Ashley: I’m very serious about this, and I think you need to get very serious about this, too. You’re gonna thank me someday. It’s the right thing to do.

Tucker: I see. And if I don’t go along with this plan?

Ashley: Amongst other things, I believe you’re gonna wake up every day for the rest of your life alone, filled with regret. Why give your family just any eggs

Sally: Sorry for the interruption.

Nick: It’s not your fault.

Sally: Yeah, but you’re disappointed.

Nick: It’s just, you said the moment was perfect, and you’re right — it was. We should have just let adam continue knocking out in the hallway. And next time, that’s what you can do.

Sally: I’m sorry. I just feel like I owe him this conversation, you know? A chance to explain himself or to ask questions. I wish it wasn’t this way. That it was you, me, and the baby. But adam is a part of the equation. We have had time to live with the reality of me being pregnant. We sat with it, and we’ve adjusted to it. I can’t just, you know, drop the news on him and expect him not to have a reaction.

Nick: So far, his reaction has been to, uh… show up drunk and pound on your room door.

Sally: I’m trying to be decent. For the baby’s sake.

Nick: I understand.

Nki: Do you think someone we know bought up tucker’s debt?

Victor: Michael baldwin is looking into it.

Nikki: Ah. Does he have a list of prime suspects?

Victor: I’m expecting one soon. Victoria thought it might be devon.

Nikki: Interesting. He certainly has the money.

Victor: He does, but I don’t think it is devon. He has had problems with his father. He doesn’t like his father. He doesn’t want anything to do with tucker’s business, I’m sure.

Nikki: Oh. It could be the consortium out of ontario. Or schumacher and his gang in germany. It could be an asian conglomerate.

Victor: Could be. But there’s one variation we have not thought of.

Nikki: What’s that?

Victor: Maybe someone wants to buy tucker’s debt to protect him.

Nikki: Who on earth would want to do that?

Victor: I have no clue. I can’t think of a person.

Sally: Another drink? Is that really a good idea?

Adam: [ Chuckles ] What, like — like an actual grown-up?

Ashley: Why? Because I’ve put you in a position where you have to acquiesce to my demands?

Ashley: Yeah. So it seems that you flip-flopped, now you think that my intentions are pure?

Tucker: When it comes to my selling my business, yeah.

Tucker: Yeah. No, I’m — I’m genuinely moved by this gesture.

Ashley: It’s very nice that you’ve had this epiphany. It’s not enough. I mean, it was my idea, and I made the first move, but you have to take it from here or the entire thing is completely meaningless.

Tucker: No, I understand that, but, you know, devon has made it clear that he does not want to hear from me, so… he — he has put up a serious wall between us right where he wants it. This whole maneuver might be for naught.

Ashley: Well, maybe I haven’t made myself clear. Failure is not an option.

Victor: So, you have an idea who might want to protect tucker mccall?

Nikki: I do.

Victor: Who?

Nikki: Ashley.

Victor: Ashley? She hates the guy.

Nikki: Now hear me out. They have gotten close since he came back to town.

Adam: Wait a minute. You think you could take tucker’s company?

Devon: Eh… I just feel like I’ve been down that road before, and he’s done nothing but lie. He lies and lies and lies, and I don’t want to put myself through that again.

Abby: Well, if you feel like he’s scamming you, then just shut it down.

Devon: That’s easy to say. Because, I mean, part of me would love if he was somebody that I could trust and I could go to for advice. You know? I need help sometimes. I need…

Abby: You need a father.

Devon: Well, the problem is, is he knows that, and he uses it to try and get close to me. And I just have too much going on right now to worry about what he’s got going on or what he’s up to.

Abby: I am just so sorry.

Devon: No, it’s okay. Don’t be sorry. Don’t be sorry. This is my real father. And he knew what to do.

Abby: He would.

Devon: Yeah, I know.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Devon: But listen to me. I appreciate everything that you’re doing, everything that you’re saying. Okay? Just talking to you makes me feel better.

Abby: Oh, really?

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Abby: You don’t seem like you feel better.

Devon: I — I do. I promise you, I do. Just being close to you makes me feel better. Always has.

Abby: There’s no place I’d rather be.

Devon: Oh?

Abby: Mm-hmm.

Tucker: I don’t know why i would’ve expected anything different. He just doesn’t want to hear from me. It’s gonna be a challenge just to get him to have a conversation with me, let alone make a deal.

Ashley: You love a challenge. The higher the stakes, the better. And this risk has the ultimate reward — a real relationship with your child. I need you to get busy, or I’m gonna be really angry that I’ve wasted my time on you.

Tucker: That your idea of a pep talk, or is that a threat?

Ashley: Whatever it takes to get you to do this. Make it happen.

Tucker: Okay. I appreciate the effort. What happens beyond this?

Ashley: What do you mean?

Tucker: Mm. Well, let’s say I’m successful and devon wants to take over my company. What then? Is this solely about my redemption, or is this about us, too?

Ashley: Well, um… if you make it happen, and that’s a pretty big if… I guess that would go a long way in making me believe that you actually… I mean, really, truly want to change and be a better man. But first things first. Type 2 diabetes?

Sally: [ Sighs ]

[ Tablet ringing ] Hey. Is everything okay with christian?

Nick: Oh, he’s fine. He just needed some reassurance. He’s already back to sleep.

Sally: Dad to the rescue.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] Yeah. So, how’d you leave things with adam?

Sally: I got out of there as soon as you left. But we parted on good terms, I think.

Nick: That’s good. You know, this doesn’t have to be the end of our evening. You could always come out to my place and stay the night.

Sally: Tempting, but I am exhausted. I think I’m just gonna stay here. But I’ll see you in the morning.

Nick: Excellent.

Sally: Hey, why did you video chat me instead of calling?

Nick: I just wanted to see you smile one more time.

[ Both laugh ]

Sally: Good night, nick.

Nick: Good night.

Adam: Running mccall. That’s A… that’s a big job.

Victor: It’s a hell of a big job.

Adam: So, what, um… what are you planning to do to steal tucker’s company away from him?

Victor: I’m not ready to talk about it.

Adam: Why? You gonna make me the fall guy? You gonna install me at the top of the company, he comes after me, he leaves you alone?

Victor: Son, please stop your paranoia, okay? Not at all.

Adam: Well, then, what is the holdup?

Victor: I’ve run into a roadblock. I’m about to find out who’s causing it. Once I’ve found out… I’m going to make my next move. “Coffee tomorrow morning? I’ll give you 30 minutes.”

[ Cellphone chimes ] “Coffee tomorrow morning. I’ll give you 30 minutes.”

Tucker: Looks like devon changed his mind.

Ashley: Really? He’s gonna talk to you?

Tucker: Yeah, he’s giving me 30 minutes tomorrow morning.

Ashley: Mm.

Tucker: Thank you.

Ashley: I didn’t do much.

Tucker: May have been enough.

Ashley: I’m thrilled for you. But, tucker… don’t screw it up. Well, this could be your last chance with devon.

Tucker: No, you’re right. It’S… there’s way too much on the line for me to fail now.
