Days of Our Lives Update

Update written by Joseph

Tate and Holly sit together at the Kiriakis Mansion doing homework. Tate complains about it while Holly points out that college is going to be even harder. Holly asks about Aaron coming over but Tate informs her that he’s not coming. Tate goes over how Aaron’s brother Mark is in prison for trying to kill Chad while his sister Cat is off looking for their mother who may or may not be undead for the second time.

Cat tries calling Chad but he’s not answering. Cat leaves a voicemail that Catharina is on her way to Clyde’s apartment with the gun. Cat wishes he gave her the address and asks Chad to call her back when he gets this and to be careful. Cat hangs up and then gets a call from her brother Aaron. Aaron says he feels like he’s losing his mind and asks if she found their mom. Cat apologizes and confirms that she found their mom, but she slipped through her fingers.

Chad comments on Clyde’s plan not working out too well. Chad declares the game he played with their lives is over now and asks what he did with Abigail’s body. Clyde supposes that’s the least he could do for him, since he won this round. Clyde says he will tell Chad the truth about Abigail, but he isn’t going to like it. Chad says he’s listening. Clyde starts to tell Chad about Abigail when Catharina suddenly appears and shoots Clyde in the chest, shocking Chad, Gabi, and JJ.

Steve calls Jack and says he knows he’s worried about JJ and Chad as he is too. Steve wishes he was in Vancouver backing them up but says it’s too late now. Steve bets they’ve already made their move on Clyde. Steve tells Jack that if anything went wrong, he’s sure they would’ve heard about it by now, so they just have to trust that they are going to bring that son of a bitch down.

Tate calls Aaron and leaves a message to tell him that they are going to put his name on their homework, but he was just checking to see how he was doing and to call him back. Holly talks about feeling so bad for Aaron and what his family is going through. Tate talks about Aaron being really stressed about school. Holly finishes her work while Tate complains about how long it’s taking him. Holly helps Tate turn autosave on his laptop. Tate thinks they have earned a break. Tate points out that it’s about to be their one year anniversary and they’ve only had like one official date, so he suggests a do over. Holly agrees and asks where to go.

Aaron asks what Cat means by their mom got away with a gun. Cat explains that she only knows that Clyde really messed with her head. Aaron asks if she has any idea where she might have gone. Cat responds that she went to Clyde’s apartment but she doesn’t know where that is since Chad didn’t give her the address. Cat guesses Chad didn’t fully trust her but she wishes he did as she worries that he could be in trouble.

JJ and Gabi turn their guns on Catharina and demand she drop her gun while Chad questions what she has done. Catharina complains that Clyde said he was her friend and that he would always be there for her but it was all a lie. Chad grabs the gun from Catharina and shouts that Clyde was just about to tell him what he did with his wife and now he may never know. Chad checks Clyde’s pulse and confirms that he is still alive. Chad yells at Clyde to wake him up. Chad tells Clyde that if he wants help, he will tell him what he did with Abigail.

Aaron asks Cat what the plan is. Cat says she has to find Catharina and Chad and promises to call him as soon as she has something. Aaron tells her to be careful as they hang up. Cat finds Catharina’s purse and looks for an address.

Kayla goes home to Steve, who says he thought she was at work. Kayla reveals that they finally found a doctor to replace Mark Greene, so she decided to treat herself by taking the rest of the day off. Steve says she certainly deserves it after all the extra hours she put in. Kayla asks if there’s any update from Chad or JJ. Steve says not yet. Steve wishes Chad reached out sooner, so he could’ve done something to help. Kayla encourages that he did plenty by finding Clyde’s address so they could get a jump on him. Steve says that’s if they were able to do that. Steve wishes he was there with them. Kayla decides he needs a big distraction and asks him to help her wrap Christmas gifts. Steve says he’s sorry but he can’t do it because they don’t have a Christmas tree to put the gifts under. Kayla thinks they can remedy that, so they exit together.

Tate and Holly walk through the town square, talking about what they want to do. Holly doesn’t want to go bowling, so Tate suggests ice skating which Holly agrees to. They agree not to laugh at each other when they fall. Holly doesn’t care what they do as long as they are together. They then come across Aaron in the town square. Aaron apologizes for missing them earlier. Holly asks if there’s any news from his sister. Aaron confirms that he just talked to her, but he still has no idea what’s going on.

Catharina apologizes as Chad tries to wake Clyde back up. Gabi worries that Clyde is losing a lot of blood while Chad notes that Clyde’s pulse is weakening so they have to find something to put on his wound to stop the bleeding. Chad tells Clyde not to die on him as Gabi throws him a rag. Gabi can’t believe they are trying to save Clyde’s life. Chad declares it’s not working so he instructs JJ to call an ambulance. Chad tells Clyde that he’s not going without telling him what he knows, so they are going to get him help.

Aaron tells Holly and Tate that his mother is alive which Holly calls amazing news. Aaron says she was alive five minutes ago but he doesn’t know what’s going on now. Tate asks if there’s anything they can do, but Aaron says there’s nothing and he just has to wait for Cat to call him back. Tate invites him to come ice skating with them while he waits but Aaron feels he’d be bad company by now. Holly questions if he’s just going to sit there by himself. Aaron says he’s actually getting Christmas gifts for his sister Felicity since he’s the only one she has now. Holly asks if he has any ideas. Aaron admits he has no idea what teenage girls like, so Holly says they’ve got him.

Steve and Kayla return home with a little Christmas tree. Steve thinks she picked the saddest one on the lot, but he loves her for it because it’s just like her to want to rescue the runt. Kayla thinks it’s a lovely tree that just needs TLC and ornaments. Kayla adds that they didn’t need a big tree since the majority of their gifts are being shipped out to Joey and Tripp. Kayla admits last Christmas was so nice when Stephanie and Abe lived there. Steve thinks they can still enjoy the benefits of an empty nest. Kayla points out they forgot the mistletoe. Steve asks when they’ve ever needed that as they kiss.

After Chad and Catharina leave with the ambulance that has taken Clyde, Gabi asks JJ if he thinks Clyde is going to make it. JJ admits he doesn’t know since he was pretty far gone but he’s sure Chad will call when he knows anything. Cat arrives and asks what happened and where Chad is. JJ reveals he’s at the hospital. Cat asks if her mother shot him. Gabi clarifies that Catharina shot Clyde. Cat asks what they are talking about. JJ explains that Clyde was just about to tell Chad what he did with Abigail’s remains when Catharina showed up and shot Clyde point blank in the chest. Cat asks if Chad is okay. Gabi confirms that he is and that he rode in the ambulance with Clyde because he didn’t want to miss the chance to grill Clyde if he woke up on the way. Cat asks if Catharina got arrested. Gabi informs her that the police took her to the hospital as she was in shock. Cat decides she has to go see her and rushes out.

At the Vancouver hospital, Chad asks a doctor about Clyde and claims that he’s his son Ben Weston. The doctor informs Chad that his blood loss was massive, so they lost Clyde’s pulse before they could get him in to surgery. Chad asks if he’s saying that Clyde is dead.

Tate and Holly sit with Aaron in the town square. Holly tells Aaron that she’s an expert shopper so she’ll make him a list. Holly asks what Felicity likes and what she’s in to. Aaron informs her that she’s really obsessed with convertibles and horses. Tate asks if there’s anything under several thousand dollars. Aaron points out that Felicity works at the Bakery so she has all her baking stuff. Holly asks if she likes makeup or shoes. Aaron remembers Felicity always talking about wanting a pair of Wellington boots which Holly says is perfect. Aaron says he will find out her shoe size and says he just needs seven more gifts for Channukah, explaining that his dad was Jewish and his mom was Greek Orthodox so they just celebrated both. Tate relates to Victor being Greek Orthodox. Aaron talks about missing holidays from before his parents’ accident. Tate hopes Aaron’s mom comes home to them. Holly says that would be the most amazing gift for Aaron and Felicity.

Steve and Kayla go through the Christmas ornaments together. Kayla says as sad as it is to not have Tripp and Joey there, she can’t stop thinking about how tough this Christmas will be for the Hortons, especially Julie and Hope. Kayla admits she had her hopes up that Bo would wake up, just like they did with Abigail. Kayla then comes across a Christmas ornament from Jack, Jennifer, JJ, and Abigail.

JJ goes back through Clyde’s laptop to try to find what he’s hiding. Gabi offers to stay and keep looking if JJ wants to go to the hospital. JJ says no since Clyde might not even be conscious and he has a feeling the cops will be back soon to escort them out. JJ says they need to find what they can since if Clyde dies, his laptop might be the only way to find out what happened to Abigail.

Cat goes to the hospital and tells Chad that JJ and Gabi told him what happened, so she’s glad he’s alright. Cat asks about her mother. Chad says she’s still being examined by doctors. Cat asks about Clyde. Chad reveals that he flatlined in the ER so now he’s in emergency surgery. Cat asks if Clyde said anything but Chad says he was unconscious. Cat tells Chad that she’s really sorry. Chad asks her what happened. Cat explains that her mom remembered her and then tricked her in to untying her, then grabbed the gun and ran out saying she’s not going to let this son of a bitch get away with it. Cat talks about being so worried that she was talking about Chad. Chad admits he was worried about Cat too.

Holly confirms they have eight gifts and asks where they should go first but Aaron says he can take it from here. Aaron tells them to go ahead with their plans to go ice skating so this doesn’t turn in to a pity hang out. Holly insists they are here because they are friends. Tate brings up Aaron spending a whole summer at Lacrosse camp for him. Aaron says he went because he wanted to get scouted and now he doesn’t even know if he’s going to college. Holly tells Aaron that her Grandmother is Victor’s widow if he needs money or anything. Aaron responds that what he needs is just his friends as he’s lucky to have them.

Steve and Kayla continue looking through the Christmas ornaments. Steve calls it like going through a chronicle of all of Stephanie’s growing up that he wasn’t there for. Kayla assures that Stephanie worshipped him even though she didn’t know him well and now he’s everything to her. Steve says he’s so proud of the woman that Stephanie has become. Kayla talks about her mother’s old Irish tradition of lighting a candle in the window to welcome the weary travelers back home and then one day, they were so blessed to welcome Steve back home. Steve hopes they can do the same for JJ and Chad.

JJ complains that they have nothing and that Clyde’s computer is basically wiped with errors. JJ worries that everything Clyde knows is going to die with him. Gabi says they will just have to pray that he pulls through. JJ cries that he can’t go home to his parents after everything and tell them that he still doesn’t know what happened to Abigail when they are counting on him. Gabi argues that whether they find anything or not, it won’t change the fact that Abigail is gone as it’s only her body that is missing, not her. Gabi understands he needs answers, but assures that Abigail is resting in peace. Gabi says they both know that she and Abigail had their differences, but she was a beautiful person and a sweet soul. Gabi declares she has no doubt that right now, Abigail is in Heaven, looking down on her baby brother and all she wants is for him to feel a sense of peace. Gabi encourages that JJ has done the best for her and been the best brother she could ever ask for. Gabi suggests they go to the hospital, so they exit together.

Cat questions Chad being worried about her. Chad admits that when he left her and Catharina, Catharina was tied up and Cat had a gun, so when Catharina showed up, he thought something might have happened to Cat. Cat admits she thought something might have happened to Chad too and mentions leaving the voicemail. Chad says he didn’t get it until after. Chad says this whole thing got so messed up. Cat wonders why Catharina shot Clyde when she was under his spell. Chad guesses Cat broke through to her. A cop brings Catharina in to the room. She tells Cat that she’s so sorry for what she did and she just wants to hold her in her arms. Catharina admits she wasn’t thinking clearly earlier and still isn’t. Cat says whatever Clyde did to her was not her fault. Catharina wants Cat to know how much she loves her before they take her away. Catharina talks about missing Cat, Aaron, Felicity, and Mark so much. She asks if they are alright. Cat confirms they are. Catharina thanks her for trying to find her and saving her. The cop decides she has said her piece. Cat tries to stop them for a minute but the cop escorts Catharina back out. Chad hugs Cat as she breaks down crying.

Holly and Tate walk to the park. Tate hopes she didn’t mind that he invited Aaron with them. Holly thought it was really sweet of him. Holly admits she’s kind of glad he said no, but she has a lot of regrets with what happened between her and Sophia so she wants to be a really good friend to Aaron since he needs them. Tate says she was really great with helping Aaron figure out what to get for Felicity. Tate tells Holly that he wants to get her something and suggests a hot chocolate because he can tell she’s freezing. Holly says maybe later but she wants him to warm her up now so they hug and kiss.

Aaron remains in the town square as he gets a call from Cat, informing him that Catharina got arrested. Cat says she’s heading to the police station to make sure she has an attorney. Cat assures that everything will be okay since Clyde was an escaped fugitive so everything Catharina did was in self defense, so she will get out. Aaron points out that Mark hasn’t gotten out. Cat encourages him to stay positive and promises to call when she knows more as she hangs up. Cat feels Chad thinks her mom deserves to be locked up but Chad says he doesn’t know what to think right now. Cat knows how badly he wanted to find Abigail’s remains, so she’s praying he finds the answers he needs.

Steve finishes a call with JJ, saying he’s so glad that he’s safe. Steve tells JJ to keep him posted as they hang up. Steve informs Kayla that JJ didn’t have much time to talk as he’s on his way to the hospital since Clyde was shot, but everyone else is fine including Catharina. Steve says JJ wasn’t sure what condition she was in but she is alive. Kayla says that will be such a relief for John. Steve says for him too. Steve adds that now that Clyde is caught and no one else is hurt, he can finally take down the Wanted poster. Kayla thinks they got their Christmas miracle early.

JJ and Gabi join Chad at the hospital. Gabi asks where Cat is. Chad says they just took her mother in so Cat went to go be with her. JJ asks about Clyde. Chad says he’s still in surgery so it’s touch and go. Chad asks how the search went. JJ responds that he’s sorry but they looked everywhere. Chad says it’s okay and thanks him for trying. Chad says they just have to pray that Clyde pulled through. The doctor comes in and informs Chad that Clyde made it through surgery. Chad is surprised and asks how he made it through. Chad asks when they can see him. The doctor informs him that he can see Clyde now, but he’s afraid he won’t have much to say for quite some time, if ever, as the doctor then reveals that Clyde is in a coma.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[sighs]

What?

Nothing, I just–I can’t believe that Ms. Fisher is making us write an annotated bibliography with “no fewer than 20 primary and secondary sources.” Oh, right, and peer-reviewed.

Question, what do you think college is gonna be like? A lot harder than this. [chuckles] Hey, do you know where Aaron’s at? Wasn’t he supposed to be here, like, half an hour ago?

Oh, right. Sorry, I forgot to tell you he’s not coming.

What? Why not?

Well, Aaron’s got a few more important things on his mind. For starters, you know, his brother’s in jail for trying to kill Chad DiMera. And his sister, who was not long ago presumed dead, is off searching God knows where for their mother, who may or may not be– honestly, I don’t even know what the word is– undead for the second time.

[dramatic music]

[line ringing]

[sighs]

Come on, Chad, pick up. [sighs] [scoffs] Damn it.

[line clicks] Voicemail.

[line beeps] [sighs] Chad, it’s me. Listen, my mother is on the way to Clyde’s apartment. She has the gun. [sighs] I wish you had given me your address over there. Please just call me back when you get this, OK? And be careful.

[phone rings] Aaron? Hey.

Cat, hey. Oh, my God, I feel like I’m losing my mind here. Did you find Mom?

I’m sorry I haven’t been in touch sooner. I–yes, I found Mom.

You did?

I did. It’s just, the thing is– – The thing is what?

Oh, my sweet girl. Oh! I love you so much.

Oh, I love you too, Mom. [sighs]

Thank you. Thank you for rescuing me.

Wait a sec. Wait, what are you doing?

I’m sorry.

Mom, what are you doing? What are you doing?

I’m sorry, sweetheart.

What are you doing?

I can’t let that son of a bitch get away with this.

Mom? Mom! No, no, no, no, no! Mom!

She sort of slipped through my fingers.

Yeah, seems like that spare assassin plan didn’t work out too well, did it?

That little game you played with my life, with Cat’s life, that’s over now, Clyde.

Why don’t you just tell me what you did with Abby’s body?

Yeah, I–

I suppose that’s the least I could do for you, seeing how you’ve won this round.

I’ll tell you the truth about Abigail. But you ain’t gonna like it.

I’m listening.

Yeah. Well, Abigail is– [gunshot]

Listen, Jack, I know you’re worried about JJ and Chad. I am too. I know. I know. I wish I was there in Vancouver myself, backing them up. Yeah. Well, it’s too late for me now. And besides, I bet they’ve already made their move on Clyde.

OK, listen, if anything did go wrong, I’m sure we would have heard about it by now. No, we just have to trust that they’re gonna bring that son of a bitch down.

Oh, my God. You shot him.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Aaron, hey, man. I just wanted to let you know that Holly and I are working on this stupid history paper, and we’re gonna put your name on it, so you don’t need to worry. But I was just calling to check in and see how you’re doing, man, so call me back. Straight to voicemail.

I feel so bad for Aaron. Like, listen, I know our families have been a hot mess for a while now but nothing compared to what he’s going through.

Yeah, he’s also really, really stressed about school. You know, he told me that if he doesn’t get an A-minus on this test, he’s gonna flunk the class. So no pressure.

No pressure. Oh, my God. Oh, my God! I just–I finished my last citation.

What are you talking about? This is taking me for-freaking-ever.

Wait, do not have your auto-cite feature on?

The what? The–

Oh. Oh, my God. Tate, give me your laptop.

[soft music]

Wow. Oh, my God. I don’t even know how many hours of work that you just saved me. Wow. Thank you.

Welcome.

What are you doing?

I don’t know. I think we’ve earned a break. Don’t you?

I don’t know. Have we?

Hell yeah.

[laughs] You know, it’s about to be our one-year anniversary. And we’ve only had, like, one official– I don’t even know, does the date at the hibachi place even count?

God, where we got sat next to the screaming kids who were throwing crayons at the chef?

Uh-huh.

No, I don’t think so.

Yeah, me neither.

[chuckles]

So how about we do, like, a do-over?

I like that idea.

OK. So where to?

[chuckles]

Wait.

[tense music] What do you mean, Mom got away with a gun? Wait, where did she even– why? How?

I don’t know. I don’t know. What I do know is that Clyde has really messed with her head.

OK. OK. Do you have any idea where she might have gone?

She went to Clyde’s apartment.

Clyde’s apartment. Do you know where?

No, I–I don’t know where Clyde’s apartment is. Chad didn’t give me the address.

Why not?

Well, I guess he doesn’t fully trust me. But I really wish he did, because I think he might be in a lot of danger.

Drop the gun!

Did you hear what he said? Drop it!

Catharina, what have you done?

He said he was my friend. He said he would always be there for me, my sweet. But it was all a lie, wasn’t it?

Damn him.

Damn him? Damn you! He was just about to tell me what he did with my wife. And now I might– I might never know. Hey, Clyde?

He’s got a pulse. JJ, he’s alive. Hey! Hey! Weston, wake up!

You shot me.

Yeah. Yeah, you want help, huh? Do you want help? You tell me what you did with my wife.

[exhales heavily]

Weston, you son of a bitch! Hey! Weston!

[dramatic music]

So what’s the plan here, Cat?

Are we just– are we just supposed to–

Aaron, I have to find Mom and Chad, OK? I–I will call you as soon as I have something. I promise.

OK. Just please be careful, Cat.

Damn it! [sighs]

[sighs] OK. Please have an address. Please have an address.

Hello?

Hey, Sweetness. Thought you were at work.

Well, I was. But, hallelujah, we finally found a doctor to replace Mark Greene.

Oh, now, that’s good news.

It is great news, so I thought I would treat myself and take the rest of the day off.

Well, you sure do deserve that after all the extra hours you’ve been putting in these past couple of weeks.

I agree. So any word from Chad or JJ?

No, not yet. Man, I wish Chad had reached out to me sooner. If only I’d known what they were up to, I might have been able to do something to help.

Come on. You did plenty. You’re the one that found the location where Clyde was living so they could get a jump on him.

Yeah, if they were able to do that. I just wish I was there with them.

Oh, I know you do. You know what you need?

Hmm?

You need a big, fat distraction.

Oh, well, what did you have in mind?

Well, I was thinking that maybe… you could help me wrap these gifts.

Oh. The old gift wrapping distraction, huh?

Yeah. It’ll be fun and Christmassy and– but just don’t look in that particular bag.

OK. I don’t know, baby. I’m sorry. I–I can’t do it. I can’t wrap those gifts.

And why not?

Because what are we gonna do with all those wrapped gifts when we don’t have a tree to put them under?

Oh, well, now, that’s a very good question.

Mm-hmm.

And I think that we can remedy that. This way.

Oh. OK. I guess we’re gonna get our tree.

[laughs]

Yippee!

Whoo!

[laughs]

Bowling? No, I don’t want to go bowling.

You don’t want to go bowling? What’s wrong with bowling?

There’s nothing wrong with bowling. I just–I always hit into the gutter, and I don’t feel like using bumpers.

OK. Ice-skating? Do you want to go ice-skating?

Yeah. Yeah, let’s go ice-skating.

OK, that’s great, as long as you promise that you’re not gonna laugh at me when I fall flat on my ass, because I will.

[laughs] Deal, as long as you promise me the same.

[holiday music]

Deal.

And actually, I don’t care what we do, as long as we get to do it together.

Aaron! Hey, dude.

Hey. Hey, look, I’m sorry I ditched you guys earlier today.

No, it’s OK. Any news from your sister?

Yeah, yeah, actually, I just talked to her.

And?

And I still have no clue what’s going on.

[dramatic music]

I’m sorry. I’m sorry!

Weston, Weston, wake up! Wake–wake up! Listen to me! Hey, hey! Hey, Weston, tell me what you were gonna tell me before about Abigail. Weston. Weston. Weston, do not play possum on me! Wake up!

Chad, he’s losing a lot of blood.

His pulse is weakening. We gotta–we gotta find something to– we gotta find something to–to put on this– on–on this wound; we gotta stop the bleeding. Weston. Weston, don’t you die on me!

Here. Oh, my God, I can’t believe we’re trying to save this bastard’s life.

It’s not working! We gotta–we gotta– we gotta call an ambulance. JJ, call an ambulance.

Weston? Weston? You are not gonna go without telling me what I want to know. You hear me? We’re gonna get you help.

Seriously? Your mother is alive? My God, Aaron, that’s amazing news.

She was five minutes ago. I have no idea if that’s still true. Honestly, I don’t know anything right now.

[holiday music]

Hey, what can we do to help, man? If there’s anything, just tell us.

Nothing. Nothing. I just have to wait for Cat to call me back.

Why don’t you come ice-skating with us? Come on, it’ll give you something to do while you wait.

Thank you for the invite, but no, I’d be– I’d be pretty bad company right now.

So, what, just gonna sit here all by yourself?

No. I’m actually here to get gifts for Felicity, which is– it’s usually Mark’s territory. But I’m the only one she has, at least for now.

Gotcha. Well, do you know what you’re gonna get her?

No. No, I have no idea what teenage girls like.

[laughs] Well, that’s OK. We’ve got you, Aaron.

Oof. You know what? There are more needles in that hallway than there are left on this little tree.

Well, what do you think?

I think you picked the saddest one on the lot, baby.

Saddest? Come on.

And you know what?

Hmm?

I love you for it. ‘Cause it’s just like you to want to rescue the runt, the poor little orphan.

Seriously?

Yeah.

I think it’s a lovely tree. It just needs a little TLC. And when we get our ornaments all over it, it’s gonna transform. Besides, we didn’t need a big tree this year.

Oh? Why is that?

Because the majority of these gifts are being shipped far and wide. I mean, to Joey, to Tripp. Last Christmas was so nice, when… Stephanie lived here and Abe.

Yeah. Well, as nice as that was, I think we can still enjoy the benefits of an empty nest.

You do?

Mm-hmm.

Yeah, I suppose we could. Oh, but we forgot the mistletoe.

Baby, when have we ever needed mistletoe?

[playful music] Come here.

Mm-mm.

Come here.

Mm.

Right here.

Well, maybe.

Here’s the mistletoe.

[giggles]

Well, maybe.

Mm.

[tense music]

Do you think Weston’s gonna make it?

Honestly, I don’t know. He was pretty far gone by the time the EMTs arrived. But I’m–I’m sure Chad will call us as soon as he knows anything.

Hi. Hi. Oh, my God. What–what happened? What’s going on? Where’s–where’s Chad?

He’s at the hospital.

At the hospital? Why? Oh, my God. Did my mother shoot him?

No, she didn’t shoot him.

What?

She shot Clyde.

Clyde? What are you talking about?

Clyde was just about to tell Chad what he did with Abigail’s remains when your mother came out of nowhere, shot him point-blank in the chest!

Oh, my God. But–but Chad is OK, right? He’s–he’s all right?

Yes, Chad’s fine. He rode in the ambulance with Clyde.

OK.

Said he didn’t want to miss the chance to grill him in case he woke up on the way.

My God. And what happened to my mother? Where–where is she? Did–did they arrest her?

No. The police took her to the hospital. She was in shock.

Yeah, well, I imagine she would be. I–I have to go. I have to go see her.

Hey, excuse me, Doctor. Hi. I’m looking for information on a–a patient. His name is Clyde Weston.

Are you family?

Yeah, yeah. I’m his son, Ben Weston.

I wish I had better news for you, Mr. Weston. His blood loss was massive. We lost his pulse before we could get him into surgery.

You lost his–

[dramatic music] So what are you– what are you saying? Is he dead?

[holiday music]

Ah.

OK. And since I happen to be an expert shopper, you’re in luck. So give me your list.

I don’t have a list.

Right, you just said you don’t know what to get a teenage girl.

Mm-hmm.

That’s–that’s fine. I’ll just make a list for you. OK, what does Felicity like? What is she into?

Hmm. She’s really obsessed with convertibles, horses.

Anything under several thousand dollars?

Mm. Normally I just get her baking stuff, but she works at Sweet Bits now, so she, like, has all that.

OK, tell me, are her ears pierced?

Yeah.

I don’t know.

Does she like makeup? Perfume? Oh, shoes. How about shoes? A girl can never have too many shoes.

Oh, you know what? Yeah. You know what she loves? Those Wellington boots, the ones that go up to your knees.

Mm.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. She’s always talking about she wants a pair of Wellies.

Perfect. Do you know her size?

No. But I will sneak around, and I will find that out.

OK, well, then there we have it–boots.

Boots, great. Great, great. Just seven more.

I’m–I’m sorry. Seven–seven more what?

Gifts, for Chanukah. My dad was Jewish. My mom is Greek Orthodox. We celebrated both. We had a tree and a menorah.

No way, dude. You know, my great-grandfather was Greek Orthodox.

Really?

Yeah. Yeah, man. Every Christmas, he would make us these cookies, melomakaronas. Oh, my God, they were so bomb.

Ah, I miss holidays like that. So many cookies. People breaking plates. And they clap, and they go, ay!

Yeah, yeah. [chuckles]

That was all way before, though. Way before my parents’ accident.

Aaron, I– I really hope your mom comes home to you.

Yeah. I mean, wouldn’t that be the most amazing gift for you and Felicity?

I still remember the day my mom made this with Stephanie, just like she did when I was a little girl.

Mm.

I mean, it’s been all these years, and I still smell the gingerbread.

[sniffs] I think I can smell it too.

I think that’s power of suggestion.

Oh.

Oh, and this one. My mom must have crocheted thousands of these in her lifetime. How can I only have one left?

You know what? I see some future arts and crafts projects for future Grandma Kayla.

Oh. Well, hopefully so.

[soft music]

Oh, look at this one.

[laughs]

One of Joe’s early creations, the one-eyed Rudolph.

Oh. I remember having a conversation with his preschool teacher, telling me that he really needed to work on his pasting skills.

What?

Little did she realize that in his brain, all of his biggest heroes only had one eye.

Really?

Yes!

Is that true?

Of course it’s true. And then she put the ornament on the back of the tree. And he was so upset because he knew that nobody would see it.

Well, that wasn’t very nice of her.

No, it was not. And I’ll tell you something. My mother tiger came out, and I really let her have it at the next parent-teacher conference.

I bet you did.

Yeah. Sweet. You know, as sad as it is that Tripp and Joey are not gonna be here, I really can’t stop thinking about how tough this Christmas is gonna be for the Hortons.

Yeah, especially for Julie.

And Hope. I mean, she lost her father, not to mention her glimmer of hope that Bo was gonna wake up. I mean, I have to say, I certainly had my hopes up.

Yeah, we all did.

Yeah, just like we did with Abigail.

Ugh. Mm, “Merry Christmas from our home to yours. Love, Jack, Jennifer, Abigail, and JJ.”

[sighs]

[dramatic music]

Come on, you son of a bitch. What are you hiding?

JJ, if you want to go to the hospital, I–I can stay here and just keep looking for–

No, Gabi. Look, I’d love nothing more than to smack Weston around until he coughed up the truth about what he did to my sister. But he may not even be conscious right now. And I got a feeling the cops are gonna come back soon and not so gently escort us out of here. So let’s just focus on getting what we need and then getting a move on. ‘Cause if Weston dies, then this right here might be the only way to find out what happened to her.

Chad. Gabi and JJ told me what happened. I’m so glad you’re all right. Do you know what happened to my mother or where she is?

Yeah, she’s still being examined by doctors.

What about Clyde?

Flatlined in the ER, so now he’s in emergency surgery.

Well, did he say anything?

He was unconscious.

I’m–

I’m really sorry, Chad.

What happened?

[sighs] My mom… remembered me. And then she tricked me to untie her because she wanted a hug. But instead of a hug, she grabs my gun and runs out, saying that she– she’s not gonna let the son of a bitch get away with this. I thought she was talking about you. I was– [sighs] I was so worried that she– I don’t even want to– I can’t even say it. I–

Yeah, I was worried about you too.

OK, one, two, three, four, five–eight. Eight, there we have it. Now the fun really begins. Where should we go first? Saxton’s?

No, don’t worry about it. Seriously, I can– I can take it from here.

Oh, well, I thought we’d–

No, no, you guys had plans to go ice-skating. Go, go. This does not need to turn into, like, a–a pity hangout.

Aaron, this isn’t a pity hangout. We’re here because we’re your friends.

Dude, you spent a whole summer at lacrosse camp for me.

No, I didn’t spend–

[holiday music] Sorry. What I meant was, I didn’t– I didn’t– it wasn’t some selfless act. I went because I wanted to get recruited by D college scouts. And now I don’t even know if I’m going to college.

Aaron, listen… I’m not trying to make you uncomfortable or anything. But I just want to let you know that my grandma is Victor Kiriakis’ widow, so if you need money or anything, I–

Yeah, I don’t– what I need right now is–is just my friends. OK? I’m–I’m lucky to have you guys.

[soft music]

[laughs]

I just love looking through all this stuff. You know, it’s like a chronicle of all the growing up Stephanie did that I wasn’t here for.

Oh. You know, this right here, this was our most sacred ornament.

Every year, I would lift her up, and she would hang this on the tree with more reverence than even putting the angel at the top. And then she would stand back, and she would look at it with the most beautiful smile on her face. She worshipped you, even though she didn’t know you that well. But now forget about it. You’re everything to her.

She’s everything to me. And I am so proud of the woman she’s become.

Yeah, I hear that. Ah, and this! Oh, my goodness, this. Every year, when it was just the two of us, we would light this candle and put it in the window because my mother told me that an old Irish tradition was to light it and it would welcome the weary travelers home.

Just like that. And then one day, we were so blessed to welcome you back home.

Well… I just hope we can do the same for JJ and Chad.

Yeah.

Son of a bitch! Nothing! We’ve got nothing. The computer is basically wiped. Every time you click on a link, error. Everything Clyde knows, it’s gonna die with him.

Then we’re just gonna have to pray that he pulls through.

Gabi, I can’t.

You can’t what?

I can’t go home to my parents and, after everything, tell them I still don’t know what happened to Abigail. They’re counting on me. It’s their daughter.

JJ, listen.

[dramatic music] Whether or not we find anything, it’s not gonna change the fact that she’s gone.

It’s only her body that’s missing. It’s not her.

I understand that you need answers.

But the one thing that you can be sure of is that Abigail is resting in peace.

[chuckles] We both know that Abigail and I had had our differences, to put it mildly.

But she was a beautiful person, a sweet soul. And there is no doubt in my mind that right now, she is up there in heaven and that she is looking down– she’s looking down on her baby brother.

And all she wants is for her baby brother to feel a sense of peace. JJ, look at me.

You’ve done the best for her.

I wish that were true.

No. You’ve been the best brother that she could ever ask for. And I know it is.

Let’s go to the hospital.

[sighs] You were worried about me?

Yeah, yeah, I– I mean, when I left you and your mom at the–at the club, she was tied up and you had a gun. And then when she showed up unannounced, I just– You know, I don’t know, I was– I thought that something might have happened to you.

Yeah, I was worried something might’ve happened to you too. I–I left a voicemail to warn you that she was on her way.

I didn’t get it until after. [scoffs] This whole thing has just got so messed up.

Why did my mother shoot Clyde? I don’t understand. I thought she was under his spell.

I don’t know. Maybe he broke through to her somehow. [footsteps tapping]

Cat.

Mom.

Hey. Hey.

Cat. I’m– honey, I’m so sorry for what I did.

Mom, Mom, I know. I know.

My baby girl, I just– I just want to hold you in my arms right now.

Yeah. Yeah, I want that too.

I just–I wasn’t thinking clearly earlier. I just– I’m still not.

Whatever that monster did to you was not your fault. This was not your fault, Mom, OK?

Before they take me away, I just– I want you to know how much– [sighs] How much I love you.

You and Aaron and Felicity and Mark.

I’ve just–I’ve missed you guys so much.

[sighs]

Tell me, are they all right?

Yeah, of course. Yeah, they’re OK.

Thank you, my darling. Thank you so much for– for trying to find me.

For saving me.

OK, you’ve said your piece.

No, no, just wait just for one minute. Just–just wait. [sobbing]

Hey. Wait a second. Let’s stop for a minute. I hope you don’t mind that I invited Aaron with us.

To, what, crash our date?

Yeah.

No, not at all. I thought it was really sweet of you. I mean, I guess I’ll admit I’m kind of glad that he said no. But I think the truth is, I have a lot of regrets about what happened between me and Sophia. I mean, I wasn’t really a good friend to her at times, so I don’t know, I just want to be a good friend to Aaron, especially now. He needs us, Tate.

[soft music]

You were really great back there, you know, helping him figure out what to get Felicity.

I mean, who better to ask what to get a teenage girl than a teenage girl who loves getting stuff?

Well, speaking of which, I want to get you a little something.

Uh-huh? Like what? How about a bracelet or VIP tickets to see Taylor Swift?

Ah!

Just saying. I would love that.

I was thinking more along the lines of a hot chocolate because I can tell you’re freezing.

Yeah, I kind of am. And hot chocolate sounds great.

Good.

Maybe later, though. You want to know what I really want right now?

What?

For you to warm me up.

Well, I think I can do that.

Mm.

[both laugh]

Say that again?

[dramatic music] [scoffs] Mom got arrested?

I’m headed to the station right now to make sure that she has an attorney. Now, listen, Aaron, everything’s gonna be OK. Clyde Weston was an escaped fugitive. He kidnapped our mom. Whatever she did, she was acting in self-defense. She’s gonna get out.

Hmm. Yeah. Just how like Mark got out?

OK, OK. Let’s try to stay positive, please. I will call you as soon as I know more, OK? [sighs]

[clears throat]

I know you probably think my mom deserves to be–

No, I don’t– I don’t really know what to think right now.

OK, yeah, I get that.

I know how badly you wanted to find Abigail’s remains.

I’m–I’m praying that you find the answers you need.

OK, thanks, JJ. Listen, man, I’m so glad you’re safe. Uh-huh. OK. Well, just keep me posted. Right.

So?

Well, he didn’t have much time to talk. He was on his way to the hospital.

Hospital?

Weston was shot.

Well, was anybody else hurt?

No, no. Apparently everybody else is fine, including Catharina.

They found her?

Yeah, JJ wasn’t sure what kind of condition she’s in, but she is alive.

Wow. That is gonna be such a relief for John.

Yeah. For me too. And now that Weston is caught and no one else is hurt, I guess I can finally take down that “wanted dead or alive” poster.

I think you definitely can. You know what else?

What?

Mm.

OK.

I think we got our Christmas miracle early. Yeah.

Where is she? Where’s Cat?

The police took her mother, and Cat went to go be with her.

And Clyde?

Still in surgery. It’s touch and go. How’d–how’d the search go?

Chad, I’m–I’m sorry. We looked everywhere, really. No stone unturned.

[clears throat] It’s OK. Thanks for trying. We just have to pray that he pulls through.

Mr. Weston? Your father is out of surgery.

He made it? How? He made it through? When can we see him?

You can see him right now if you want. But I’m afraid he won’t have much to say for– well, quite some time, if ever. Mr. Weston is in a coma.

Days of Our Lives Update

Update written by Joseph

Marlena finishes a call at the hospital as Leo arrives and rushes to her, saying he knows they don’t have an appointment but events have transpired that have affected his mental health. Marlena asks if it’s about Lady Whistleblower. Leo says that’s an emergency too but this isn’t about that. Leo tells Marlena that this is about the cutest guy he ever blew it with.

Javi sits at home with the phone from Gabi’s office. He answers two calls and puts them on hold, then answers a third call and tells them that Gabi is in a meeting. After being accused of lying, Javi admits that Gabi went to Vancouver with her ex-boyfriend to pose as her dead frenemy to find a crazy escaped convict.

In Vancouver, JJ and Gabi continue searching Clyde’s apartment until JJ finds Clyde’s laptop, but it’s password protected. Gabi correctly guesses his password is “Nancy”. JJ gets in and says it looks like he can access his text messages from there. Clyde then arrives with his gun raised, surprising Gabi and JJ. JJ steps forward but Clyde warns that’s not a good idea as any sudden movement might make him flinch and pull the trigger, spilling Gabi’s guts all over the floor. Clyde guesses JJ wasn’t expecting him back so soon and asks if he should call him Chad as he holds Gabi at gunpoint.

At the Pink Kitten Club, Chad holds his gun on Cat, reminding her that they need to make this look good. Chad calls out to Clyde that he did what he wanted and brought him Cat. Chad shouts that he knows Clyde is there but the door opens and they are shocked to see Cat’s mother, Catharina enter with a gun. Cat tells Catharina to put the gun down, but she doesn’t believe her, arguing that she would know her own daughter. Cat explains that after the car accident, she had to have plastic surgery and promises that she is her daughter. Catharina responds that Clyde told her that she would lie to her to try to trick her. Chad argues that all Clyde does is lie. Catharina reveals that Clyde gave her the gun because he wants them both dead. Chad then points his gun back at her.

Clyde mocks Gabi and JJ coming all the way to visit him. Clyde warns Gabi that he has no problem hurting her and says shame on them for trying to pull a fast one. Clyde guesses he’ll just have to teach JJ a lesson in what happens when you stick your nose where it doesn’t belong. JJ says that’s fine and tells him to let Gabi know so they can settle their differences as she has nothing to do with it. Clyde argues that Gabi made the unfortunate choice to accompany him, so she’s going to have to suffer the consequences.

Javi tells the person on the phone that he’s not supposed to tell where Gabi is, but insists he’s not making it up and that Gabi is out trying to track down some homicidal hick. They don’t believe him and hang up. Javi hopes Gabi’s cover story is better than his because he doesn’t know how much more of this he can take. Kerry then shows up at his door, so Javi invites him in. Kerry says Javi told him that he was working from home today, so he thought he’d bring him a mocha. Javi says he was dying for one. Kerry admits it was an excuse to see him.

Marlena asks Leo about Javi. Leo says he apologized with flowers but he just slammed the door in his face and then he tried again but that didn’t work. Leo adds that there’s a new wrinkle, reminding Marlena of when he tried to hook up with Kerry last summer but now Kerry is sparking with Javi. Leo tells Marlena that he needs her help fixing his problem. Leo knows it sounds paranoid but he can’t help but feel Javi and Kerry are conspiring to drive him insane. Leo worries about his former hookups hooking up. Leo declares he will not live in a world where Javi is sparking with Kerry.

Kerry tells Javi that he doesn’t want to keep him from his work, but he just wanted to tell him he had fun last night and hopes they can do it again. Javi ignores the phone and tells Kerry they can go on another date right now, so they agree to go to lunch.

Brady sits in the town square and calls Kristen, wanting to talk about picking up Rachel on Friday but Kristen says she already has plans. Brady argues that they talked about this and says he knows he missed Rachel’s recital but he had to work at Basic Black. Brady complains that he hasn’t seen Rachel in weeks and has tickets to the Nutcracker but Kristen informs him that she already took her to it. Brady argues that Kristen knew he wanted to take her, but Kristen tells him there’s always next year and hangs up. Ava approaches Brady and asks if something is wrong. Brady explains that he was supposed to take Rachel to The Nutcracker this weekend but Kristen already took her. Brady adds that Kristen is just screwing with him. Ava thinks this might all be her fault.

Chad tells Catharina that Cat is telling the truth that she is her daughter. Cat tells her to forget what she used to look like and listen to her voice. Cat brings up how they thought Catharina died in the accident and when they found out she didn’t, they were worried that Clyde killed her. Cat says that she, Mark, Felicity, and Aaron have all missed her so much and they were so worried but she is alive. Cat declares that now they can all be a family again and she can bring her back to them. Catharina keeps her gun raised and says she has to do this because Clyde told her to and she has to do everything he says.

JJ tells Clyde that he’s not going to get away with this. Clyde tells him that he will tell the police that he came home to find them ransacking his apartment, so he had to stand his ground and kill them. JJ argues that the police would recognize him from his mugshot and send him right back to prison. Clyde questions JJ’s faith in the police. JJ warns Clyde that this isn’t going to end well for him and he’s screwed. JJ tells Clyde to just save them the time and trouble and tell them what he did with Abigail’s body.

Brady asks Ava how it could be her fault. Ava explains that after Kristen saw them together at the Pub, they got in to it and Kristen accused her of going after him and being a homewrecker. Brady calls Kristen delusional. Ava admits she lost it and told Kristen not to get her hopes up. Ava adds that she told Kristen that Brady told her that he made no promises to her and she knows she shouldn’t have shared that. Ava feels she opened her big mouth and now Kristen is taking it out on him. Brady explains that he already knew since Kristen already gave him Hell about telling her. Ava apologizes for betraying his confidence but Brady says she wasn’t sworn to secrecy. Brady adds that he told Kristen that he wanted to keep their relationship strictly about parenting Rachel which she didn’t take well. Brady admits that Kristen thinks he’s pushing her away because of Ava since she accused him of being interested in Ava.

Javi and Kerry sit together at the Brady Pub. They take turns asking each other questions until Leo walks in while leaving a message for Rafe and stops when he sees them.

Clyde warns JJ about making demands when he’s holding a gun on Gabi. Gabi argues that in a fair fight, she’d put Clyde down like the rabid dog he is. Clyde responds that life is not fair. JJ remarks that Clyde loves threatening women. Clyde says as long as JJ wants to play the hero, his gun renders him helpless. Clyde tells JJ to face it that he’s holding the cards here. JJ guesses he’s calling Clyde’s bluff then and pulls his gun on him.

Cat questions Catharina saying she has to do everything Clyde tells her to do. Chad asks if Clyde threatened her. Catharina asks why he would do that when Clyde is her friend. Cat argues that Clyde has been threatening to kill her. Chad guesses Catharina is brainwashed. Catharina insists that Clyde told her the truth that they are both bad people who want to hurt her. Cat argues that she is her daughter and would never hurt her. Catharina shouts that she has to do this. Chad then pushes Cat aside and charges Catharina as the gun goes off.

Clyde warns JJ not to get too cocky with his gun, bringing up how JJ put Theo in a coma. Clyde says he’s not playing around and if JJ shoots him, his reflex is to pull the trigger. Clyde orders JJ to hand over his gun or Gabi gets shot. JJ reluctantly puts his gun down and kicks it to Clyde. JJ reaches in to his pocket to use his phone while Clyde questions what he’s going to do with them.

With Catharina now tied up, Cat can’t believe that her own mom tried to kill her if Chad didn’t tackle her when she did. Chad gets JJ’s SOS text message and says they need to get to Clyde’s apartment now. Cat feels she can’t leave her mother here. Chad hands Cat the gun and instructs her not to let Catharina out of her sight.

Ava asks Brady about Kristen accusing him of being interested in her and admits she’s not surprised. Ava talks about Kristen thinking that she’s moving in on her territory and went on about how she likes to take other people’s men. Ava jokes that Kristen isn’t totally wrong since it’s happened but says you can’t control someone’s delusions. Ava says if Kristen is paranoid enough to think she made a play for Brady, it makes sense that she would think it worked. Ava calls it ultimately unlikely and ridiculous but Brady asks if it is that far fetched since they are two single people who get along really well.

Leo approaches Kerry and Javi at the Pub and guesses their date went well last night since it carried over to today. Javi informs Leo that they did not go home last night. Leo asks if there was no real attraction between them then. Javi assures that there is, but he didn’t want to make the same mistake he made with Leo, so they have decided to take it slow for now.

Cat promises Catharina that everything is going to be figured out and they will find a way to undo whatever Clyde did to her. Catharina responds that she doesn’t believe a word out of her lying mouth. Cat swears that she is her daughter. Cat reminds her of her childhood and cries that it’s really her which seems to get through to her. Catharina tells her that she’s so sorry and she can’t believe she was going to hurt her. Cat tells her none of that matters anymore because she has her back and that’s all she cares about. Catharina asks Cat to untie her so she can hug her.

Ava asks if Brady is saying Kristen’s crazy delusions about them are not that crazy after all. Brady assures that they are crazy and says there’s obviously nothing going on here, but feels Ava made it sound like they could never be attracted to each other. Ava says she didn’t mean that and she’s not saying it’s totally out of the question that they could move beyond friendship but it’s nuts that Kristen has any reason to be jealous now. Ava says they’ve barely hung out and had a few brief conversations, mostly about Tate and Sophia. Ava adds that it’s not like they ever focused on getting to know each other. Brady suggests maybe it’s time they did.

Javi asks Leo if there’s anything else he needs to know. Leo claims he’s just being friendly but Javi says he’s being nosey. Javi mocks Leo’s idea that he was Lady Whistleblower. Leo tells Javi that anything he tells him goes no further than this. Leo mentions that he will tell his shrink who is helping him get over ruining a really good thing. Leo talks about Marlena feeling terrible about his apology not going well. Javi asks why he would care. Leo hopes that maybe Javi isn’t so angry with him anymore and realized he has a good heart. Leo then argues that he’s way more fun than Kerry which he questions. Leo says Kerry seems nice enough but he doesn’t get a fun vibe from him. Javi stops Leo and says he doesn’t get to insult Kerry. Leo calls it just an observation. Kerry brings up Body and Soul and says it used to be a great show before Leo ran it in to the ground.

Cat unties Catharina and they embrace. They say they love each other. Catharina thanks Cat for rescuing her but then grabs the gun back from her. Cat questions what she is doing. Catharina declares that she’s sorry but she can’t let that son of a bitch get away with this and leaves the room.

Clyde tells JJ and Gabi that he has two hostages when he only really needs one. Clyde guesses that makes JJ expendable and turns the gun on him. Gabi asks if he’s just going to shoot him. Clyde responds that he could shoot her instead. Clyde remarks that it does seem cruel to Jack and Jennifer since he did take the life of their daughter Abigail and now would be doing the same to their son. Chad then arrives and knocks out Clyde from behind.

Ava asks what Brady is saying. Brady says he has two tickets to The Nutcracker and since Rachel’s already seen it, he would love for Ava to join him. Brady adds that he will get dinner and jokes that they don’t even have to talk about Tate and Sophia at all. Brady points out that Ava doesn’t have to go if she’s scared of incurring the wrath of Kristen DiMera. Ava responds that she doesn’t scare easily, so it’s a date.

Leo tells Kerry that the network is very happy with Body and Soul’s numbers. Kerry remarks that it won’t last, asking who needs to watch when they can just get the scoop from the new and improved Lady Whistleblower. Leo reveals he’s hired a private detective to stop the leaks. Kerry wishes him luck and says goodbye to Leo, so Leo walks away while Kerry and Javi continue their date.

Chad wakes Clyde up with JJ and Gabi holding guns on him. Chad bets Clyde is surprised to see him as he thought he was dead after sending Cat’s mother to kill him while obviously brainwashed. Clyde remarks that it never hurts to have a spare assassin. Clyde says Catharina was already a hostage so he figured he might as well make use of her. Chad tells Clyde that his plan failed since Cat is keeping an eye on Catharina now and is going to make sure she doesn’t hurt anyone.

Cat tries calling Chad but he’s not answering. Cat leaves a voicemail that Catharina is on her way to Clyde’s apartment with the gun.

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Roman, Kayla and Steve talked about being there for Julie when Hope walked in the pub. Hope needed a hug, and they rallied around her. She informed everyone that she was worried about Julie. Steve got a message from Jack wanting to meet. He left after Hope told them about Bo’s progress. Steve told Hope to keep the faith about Bo. Hope told the others that she felt bad leaving Julie so soon. She’s grateful that her sister had people there to support her. Shifting gears, Hope asked if they knew anything about Doug III. Roman knew her father had a son, but he didn’t hear anything about him for years. Hope didn’t like how Julie invited him to her house. For some reason, she didn’t trust the stranger. Hope wanted to check out his story before she left town. She was going to reach out to Charles. The first things he did was reach out to Harris and told him Charles’ number. Hope reached out to Charles to talk about Doug III. After their conversation, she promised to meet him one day. Charles confirmed everything about Doug III saying that he recently told him about the family. It made sense to Hope, so she finally believed the story. She wondered what his agenda was. Roman promised to look out for Julie. After the conversations, Hope said goodbye Roman and Kayla. Jack comforted Jennifer, and she told him that she was worried about Chad and JJ dealing with Clyde. Their family dealt with so much loss. Jennifer couldn’t handle it if something happened to JJ. Jack assured her that JJ would be okay. He said that JJ and Chad needed to do this for Abby. They needed to believe that the boys would get the job done.

Doug III looked at the pictures on the mantle and took out the necklace. He stared at it and thought about overhearing the family talk about the necklace. Julie walked in the room and wondered what he was doing. Doug III slipped the necklace back in his pocket before she saw it. He told her that he was looking at pictures. Julie was sorry he didn’t get to know Hope and her kids. She told him that Ciara opened the time capsule and wanted to show him the necklace. Julie opened the capsule and saw that the necklace was gone. Jennifer returned to the Horton house, and Julie asked her about the necklace. She broke the news to her cousin that the necklace was stolen. No one wanted to upset her, but they didn’t call the police yet. Everyone thought Steven was the person who did it. Julie didn’t believe her brother would take the necklace. She was convinced he changed. Jennifer wondered who else could have done it if it wasn’t Steven. Doug III looked on while they were talking. Julie didn’t know, but she was convinced no one they knew did it. Someone had to break in while they were at the memorial for Doug. He flashed back to taking the necklace during the memorial. Doug III volunteered that Steven rushed out of Salem and enjoyed climbing through windows. Jennifer received a text from Jack saying that he needed her. She left to meet with Jack. Doug III checked on Julie to see if she was okay. She told him that she wasn’t. Julie refused to believe that her brother was a thief. He assured her that he was there for her. Hope walked in the Horton house to see Julie. She wanted to say goodbye. Julie started crying when she realized Hope was going to be with Bo. Hope assured her that her father loved her. You could feel the love all around. Julie hoped she felt his love too. Hope told her that she felt his love too. They assured each other that they would be okay. Before Hope left, she warned him not to hurt Julie. If he did, their next meeting wouldn’t be friendly. Steve met with Jack, and they talked about JJ. Jack was worried about him. Steve called in some favors from the ISA to track down Clyde. Cat had a nightmare that Clyde killed her mother. Chad comforted her to help her feel better. She pulled away from him and apologized for it. Chad told her they should focus on bringing Clyde to justice and getting Abby’s remains. Cat admitted that she had feelings for him and went along with Clyde’s plan because she wanted to save her mother. He didn’t want to hear anymore because there was no justification for what she did. She didn’t know what to do because she still had feelings for him. JJ and Gabi arrived with the letter from Clyde. The group realized they had to change their plan to get Clyde. They had to find a way to turn the tables on him. Cat and Clyde decided to go to the club where Clyde wanted them to meet him. They saw someone with a gun. Cat recognized her and called her “mom.”

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Leo met with Rafe to talk about finding out who leaked his stories to Lady Whistleblower. Rafe asked who had access to the computer if he didn’t let the cast know about the spoilers. Leo said Javi was the only one who saw it. Rafe let him know that he knew about the accusations he made against Javi. He asked Leo if there were any other suspects. Leo thought it might have been Kate to which Rafe thought wouldn’t make sense because she wouldn’t ruin her son. After Leo accused Kate, he thought it could be Abe and Kate together. Rafe didn’t think the accusation was right, but he did have a suspect in mind, but wanted to keep it to himself for now. He thought Leo would accuse the person and he didn’t want the person to know. Javi and Jada talked about Rafe working with Leo. She wondered why he didn’t want Rafe working with Leo. He told her what Leo did to him and how Leo would accuse Rafe if he didn’t find the suspect. While they were talking, he got a text and had to leave. When Rafe came home, Jada told him about what Javi told her and asked about the case. He told her he suspected Hattie was involved. Jada asked if he was tracking her down to which he said he was and wondered if something was wrong with that. Jada said Hattie was a suspect in the poisoned cupcake situation and didn’t want him to get in her way. Rafe said Javi told him his job would come between them. Jada asked him to let her take the lead, but he said he could follow anyone he wanted. They ended up arguing over it. Rafe told her she was afraid that Paulina would think he was doing a better job than she was to which Jada said she wasn’t. The two shook hands.

Javi went to the town square while Leo was reading Lady Whistleblower’s column. He told Leo that he was sorry about the spoilers being leaked. Leo thought he deserved Javi’s attitude after what he did. He said he enjoyed being the head writer and now it was ruined. Javi said he understood and was sorry that he was going through this. Leo thanked him and was excited about the next episode. He invited Javi to watch it with him. While they were talking, Kerry showed up and asked if Javi was ready. Javi and Kerry met on a dating app. Leo was shocked that they were going out together. Kerry reminded Leo that he didn’t think there was anything between them. He and Javi left to get drinks. EJ gave Joy and check and told her to pack and leave. Joy didn’t want to leave because she liked her job. He told her she could go back to school with the money he was giving her. In addition to the money, he said he could introduce her to an agent in L.A. When Joy took the check, Kate showed up and asked what was going on. Kate didn’t think they knew each other. EJ said Joy decided to quit the show. Kate asked Joy why she wanted to leave the show. Joy said it wasn’t a right fit for her and she missed New York. Kate said she couldn’t let her quit while she was under contract because it would be a breach of contract. EJ said he knew Joy had a contract which was why she wanted him to get her out of it. He said Kate could get someone else for the role to which Kate said she didn’t want to. Kate said she and Abe would work with her so she wouldn’t have to break her contract. Joy agreed and said she would stay. Kate was happy she was staying and said she and Abe would make arrangements so she could visit her family. When Kate walked off, EJ wanted to know what Joy was doing. She said she liked being an actress and wondered why she should give it up. He said she interfered in Johnny’s life. She said it took two of them to do that and that Johnny would have to get used to seeing her because she wasn’t leaving. After she was finished talking, she walked off. Alex told Johnny that Joy liked her job and didn’t want to quit. He said he talked her out of quitting. Johnny was upset and told him it was none of his business. Chanel walked in and wondered why they were fighting. Alex said they were fighting over Joy to which Chanel wondered why. Johnny lied and said Alex slept with her. He said Alex admitted to sleeping with Joy and didn’t think it was a good idea after what happened with him and Stephanie. Alex said he and Joy weren’t married so they weren’t hurting anyone to which Chanel said wasn’t true. She said Joy could be hurt because she’s new in town and he wasn’t over Stephanie. Alex said he didn’t want anyone to get hurt either. Chanel went upstairs to learn her lines. Alex asked Johnny why he lied about him sleeping with Joy. Johnny said he had to think fast since Joy was leaving town. Alex said Chanel would blame him for it. Johnny said he panicked but everything would be okay as long as Alex didn’t say anything. Alex agreed not to say anything because he didn’t want to hurt Chanel. Later on, EJ came home and told Johnny that Kate convinced Joy not to leave town. He said Joy wasn’t leaving town. Chanel walked in and wondered why Johnny looked like he was caught doing something. EJ attempted to change the subject by asking her about the show. She said she was connecting with her character and wanted Johnny to help her with her lines. Johnny agreed to help her. When Chanel went upstairs, EJ told him he would have to learn to live with what he did.

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

Doug Williams III stands in the living room of the Horton house, looking at the photos on the mantle as he pulls out Alice’s diamond necklace that he stole. He thinks back to hiding outside the window of the house when the family was first going through the time capsule and found the necklace. Julie then walks in and asks what he’s doing.

Roman, Kayla, and Steve bring out the Christmas decorations at the Brady Pub. Kayla calls it the unofficial kickoff of Christmas season, but says this year all she can think about is Julie having to spend it without Doug. Roman says the annual hanging of the Horton ornaments will definitely be bittersweet this year. Steve adds that Julie will need her family and friends around her more than ever this year. Hope then arrives and hugs Roman and Kayla.

Jack and Jennifer sit in the town square. Jack comments on Jennifer being up late last night. Jennifer says she just had long talks with Hope and then she couldn’t sleep because she can’t stop thinking about JJ and Chad going up against Clyde Weston on their own. Jack encourages that they are both smart and capable. Jennifer says she knows but she just wants to hear from them. Jack assures that they will as it’s still early in Vancouver.

At the hotel in Vancouver, JJ wakes up with Gabi’s hand on his chest. Gabi wakes up and apologizes but JJ says it’s okay as she was always a cuddler and some things never change.

Chad wakes Cat up from having a nightmare in their motel in Vancouver. Cat tells Chad about her nightmare that Clyde went through with his threat of killing her mother. Cat worries that dream could be real and everything she did was all for nothing. Chad hugs Cat as she breaks down crying. Cat apologizes for falling apart like that. Chad understands she’s worried about her mom. Cat talks about how her mom used to comfort her after having nightmares. Cat says she thought she lost her mom once and can’t go through that again. Chad responds that he knows what that’s like. Cat says she’s really sorry. Chad tells her to stay focused on bringing Clyde to justice. Cat brings up that Clyde said he would reach out with instructions this morning. Chad is sure that JJ will reach out as soon as he does.

JJ jokes that he should thank Gabi for keeping him warm. Gabi says that was not her intent. JJ says it’s okay that she missed him. Gabi insists she was just dreaming about Stefan because she loved him. JJ argues that Stefan was an ass who took advantage of Abigail and treated Gabi like dirt, so he feels she’s lucky to be rid of him. Gabi brings up that Stefan skipped town without even saying goodbye so that’s how much she meant to him. JJ feels that’s proving his point that Stefan’s an ass. JJ tells Gabi that he’s sorry that things ended the way they did. Gabi thanks him and says they should get dressed for the big day ahead of them.

Jennifer knows Jack is right that JJ and Chad are strong and capable. Jack understands it’s hard not to worry. Jennifer states that their family has suffered so many losses in the last few years, so she would like to think that she’s strong but worries about anything happening to JJ. Jack assures that JJ will be fine and that they need to do this for Abigail. Jack declares that they need to believe they will succeed in their mission for her.

Kayla tells Hope that they are so sorry about Doug as they all loved him so much. Steve asks how she’s holding up. Hope says it’s Julie that she worries about. Steve’s alarm goes off to remind him he needs to meet with Jack. Steve offers to put it off but Hope says she understands and knows what’s going on. Steve asks how long Hope is in town. Hope informs him that she’s flying back in a little bit to get back to Bo, but tells Steve to go ahead as it’s important. Steve tells Hope that he’s always thinking of her and Bo. Kayla brings up hearing that Bo squeezed her hand. Roman asks if it was a false alarm which Hope confirms. Steve insists that they all know Bo is going to wake up and encourages Hope to keep the faith. Steve hugs Hope as he says goodbye to them and exits the Pub. Kayla tells Hope that Julie must be grateful to have her. Hope says she felt bad about having to leave so fast. Hope talks about being grateful for all the supportive people. Hope then asks if Kayla and Roman have met Doug’s long lost grandson.

Doug III tells Julie that he was just looking at the family photos and putting names to faces. Julie says most of them are her relatives. Julie shows Doug a picture of Shawn and talks about him going through a tough time right now. Julie says that Shawn was a great cop just like Hope and the bad guys always knew they were in trouble when they were on the case. Julie is sorry that Doug didn’t get to bond with Shawn, Hope, and Ciara. Julie brings up Ciara being the one to open the time capsule and says she wants to show him all the things inside of it. Julie mentions the necklace that belonged to Alice but then calls it strange that the necklace isn’t there.

Roman tells Kayla and Hope that he hadn’t heard anything about Doug’s son in years. Kayla talks about how it must be for Julie. Hope questions Julie inviting this guy that she just met to move in and admits she doesn’t think it’s a good idea at all. Hope says she doesn’t mean to be a cynic but she doesn’t completely trust this so called Doug Williams. Roman asks if she thinks this guy is not who he says he is.

Julie doesn’t understand and tells Doug III about the necklace being gone. Jennifer comes home. Julie asks her what happened to the necklace as she wanted to show it to Doug but it’s not there. Jennifer responds that she’s so sorry as she thought they would figure it out before she found out, but they think the necklace was stolen right after they left for the funeral. Julie questions her knowing and not telling her. Jennifer says she was dealing with so much and they didn’t want to upset her. Julie questions why they haven’t called the police. Jennifer informs her that they think it was stolen by someone close to them.

Steve meets Jack in the town square and asks if there’s been any word from JJ. Jack says not since last night. Jack mentions telling Jennifer that JJ would be fine but admits he’s worried since they are going in to this Clyde situation totally blind. Steve reveals that he called in some favors with the ISA last night, so it’s easier to narrow down the search for Clyde. Steve says he’s still waiting to hear but they are on it. Steve then gets a text.

Gabi asks JJ when he thinks they’ll hear from Clyde. JJ hopes it will be soon. Gabi wonders if there’s a problem or if he’s on to them. They then receive a note slipped under the door. JJ picks it up and sees it’s addressed to Chad, so he opens it. JJ reads the order to bring Cat Green to the back room of the Pink Kitten Club at 10 AM sharp.

Chad questions Cat taking long in the bathroom. She comes out and says she was getting dressed, arguing that it’s not like she’s going to jump out the bathroom window. Chad reminds her that he doesn’t want her out of his sight for that long. Cat tells him to chill and argues that she’s not the enemy anymore. Chad states that he can’t afford to mess this up. Cat says she’s not just in this for personal reasons and insists she wants to help him find Abigail’s remains. Cat talks about how she hates that she put him through Hell so she wants to do anything she can to lessen his pain because she still cares about him. Chad remarks that she has a strange way of showing it since all she’s ever done is lie to him. Cat knows it felt that way but repeats that she was only trying to save her mother. Chad stops her and says nothing she says will justify what she did. Cat tells Chad that she doesn’t expect him to return her feelings. Cat wishes she didn’t have feelings for him and gets that he’s going to hate her forever. They are interrupted by a knock at the door. It’s Gabi and JJ who present Chad with Clyde’s note.

Julie asks Jennifer who she thinks stole the necklace. Jennifer reveals that they think it was her brother Steven. Julie questions accusing Steven and what proof they have. Jennifer brings up Steven’s history with that sort of thing. Julie insists that Steven changed as Doug III looks on. Julie assures that Steven has a good heart, so she doesn’t see how she could point the finger at him just because of his history. Jennifer brings up that Steven had the opportunity when they were leaving for the funeral. Julie remembers Steven going back after forgetting his phone but says that doesn’t mean he stole the necklace. Jennifer asks who else it could have been.

Kayla thinks Hope is right to be cautious about Doug III after what happened with the impostor Abigail. Hope says she told Jennifer to keep an eye on him. Roman says they will too. Hope wants to verify Doug III’s story before she leaves town. Hope says she knows someone who should be able to get her the information she needs.

JJ reveals that he looked up the Pink Kitten Club and it’s a strip club. Gabi says it sounds like a place Clyde would hang out. JJ adds that it would be empty during the day. Chad worries about Clyde setting a trap and that without the advantage, there’s nothing to stop Clyde from shooting Gabi and JJ on the spot. JJ says he can be their backup. Chad worries that Clyde would see them coming. JJ points out that the clock is ticking. Chad gets a call from Steve and hopes he can help them figure something out. Chad says they could use his help. Steve says he knows as Jack and Jennifer told him what they are doing, so he did some digging and has some useful intel for him. Steve informs Chad that the ISA helped him get a line on where Clyde has been hiding. Steve says he will text him an address on the outside of town. Chad thanks him and says they will check it out. Steve reminds Chad to call for backup from the local authorities but Chad says they don’t have time for that. Steve wishes Chad told him about this as soon as Clyde called him. Chad apologizes but says Clyde told him not to tell anyone. Chad thanks Steve for the assist. Steve responds that he can thank him by not getting himself killed.

Hope finishes a call with Harris Michaels and thanks him for the help. Kayla didn’t know they were still in touch. Hope explains that he keeps her up to date on his search for Megan and how he’s working for the Navy Seals and the ISA. Hope says that Harris should be able to get him the contact information for Charles LeClaire pretty quickly. Harris then sends it over, so Hope calls Charles. Hope introduces herself and says it’s good to finally speak. Hope tells him that she’s actually calling about his son.

Julie questions Jennifer thinking anyone close to them could have stolen the necklace and argues that someone must have broke in to the house right after they left for the memorial. Doug III thinks back to stealing the necklace after Jennifer and Julie left. Jennifer tells Julie that they wondered if it could be a random stranger but questions why they would take the necklace and nothing else or how they would even know there was a necklace to steal. Julie responds that she has no idea, but her heart tells her that her brother did not do it.

Chad decides he and Cat will go to the Pink Kitten Club to stall Clyde as long as they can, while instructing JJ and Gabi to go to the address to the apartment that Clyde’s been staying at to see if they can find any information on Abigail’s body or Cat’s mother. JJ doesn’t like the idea of Chad going without backup and suggests calling local police after all. Cat argues that they can’t do that because if Clyde gets wind of it, he’ll kill her mother. JJ asks how she’s going to escape a dangerous situation then. Gabi suggests getting what they need from his place and then calling the cops, thus making sure Cat’s mother is safe first. Cat thanks Gabi. JJ questions Gabi being on Cat’s side. Gabi responds that hating Clyde has a way of bringing people together. JJ questions how they know Cat’s still not working with Clyde. Cat repeats that she wants Clyde in chains as much as they do. Chad admits he had the same reservations but they have no choice but to trust Cat, so if they want this plan to work, they need to start moving. Cat asks what if Gabi and JJ come up empty. JJ says they’ll text them. Cat pleads with them not to call the cops until her mother is safe. JJ says that’s Chad’s call which he agrees to. JJ then warns them that they are going to have to get the hell out of there all on their own.

Julie warns Jennifer that it’s a powerful accusation and Steven isn’t here to defend himself. Jennifer informs her that Ciara and Lucas confronted Steven about the necklace but he denied it. Doug III interrupts to point out that Julie said Steven left town in a hurry and his way in and out was through a window. Jennifer gets a text from Jack to meet him in the town square. Julie decides they’ll talk about this later. Jennifer assures they’ll figure it out soon and says she loves her. Jennifer exits as Doug III remarks that he wishes he knew how to help. He asks Julie if she’s okay. Julie cries that she’s definitely not. Julie says it meant so much to her that her brother came to Doug’s memorial service as she hadn’t seen him in so long. Julie cries that it was a blessing for her and now his own family is accusing him of being a thief. Julie declares that it would break her heart. Doug III responds that there’s something she should know.

Hope tells Charles that someday they will meet in person and thanks him as they hang up. Hope then informs Kayla and Roman that Charles confirmed having a son named Doug, who he recently told all about his connection to their family but he was surprised he was in Salem. Kayla guesses Doug III’s story checks out then and he’s not an impostor. Roman notes that Hope is still not satisfied. Hope still wonders what his agenda is with the timing. Hope points out that Julie is very vulnerable right now, so she doesn’t want her being taken advantage of. Roman assures they will look out for her. Hope thanks him and says she has to get to the airport. Kayla repeats that they are so sad about Doug. Roman tells Hope to tell Bo to wake up and that he loves him. Hope hugs Roman and agrees to pass his message along. Hope hugs Kayla and says she loves them so much. Hope then exits the Pub.

JJ and Gabi go to the apartment address that Steve gave them. JJ says he’s not taking any chances and pulls out a gun. JJ hands the gun to Gabi while he picks the lock to the apartment. JJ opens the door and says there’s no one there so they have to work fast. JJ and Gabi begin searching the apartment. Gabi finds a fake ID with Clyde’s picture, using the name George Hazard. They continue searching the apartment.

Chad and Cat go to the back room of the Pink Kitten Club. Chad notes it doesn’t look like anyone is there so they will just have to be patient. Cat worries about dying here and asks how they are going to make sure things go their way. Chad says like this and pulls out his gun while Cat questions what he is doing.

Doug III tells Julie that even if her brother did let her down, he’s always here for her no matter what. Julie thanks him and hugs him as she says it means a lot. Hope then walks in and says she’s sorry to interrupt but it’s time to say goodbye. They talk about hating that it’s so soon but Hope says she really needs to get back to Bo. Julie understands as they embrace. Hope talks about how much Doug loved Julie. Julie says she feels his love all around her and hopes that Hope does too. Hope assures that she always has and always will. Hope asks if Julie will be okay. Julie says she’s’ more concerned that Hope will be okay. Hope says she will call her when she lands as they hug. Julie insists on getting her a box of donuts for her trip, so she heads to the kitchen. Doug III tells Hope that it was nice to meet her. Hope hopes he’ll take care of Julie while she’s gone. He says he just promised her that. Hope warns that she’s glad to hear that because she’s very protective of Julie and if he hurts her in any way, she’ll be back but not so friendly next time.

Jennifer meets Jack and Steve in the town square. Jennifer asks if this is about Chad and JJ. Jack informs her that they have news. Steve says that Chad and Cat are going to meet Clyde soon. Jennifer asks what happened to JJ and Gabi. Jack says that Chad told them that the plan had to change on the fly but the good news is that Steve was able to track down an address for Clyde. Steve explains that Chad and Cat are going to stall Clyde while JJ and Gabi search his place for information about Abigail. Jennifer worries that it doesn’t sound less dangerous. Jack says it might be their only chance to find their daughter’s body. Jennifer assures that if there is something to mind, JJ will find it.

JJ and Gabi continue searching Clyde’s apartment until JJ finds Clyde’s laptop, but it’s password protected. Gabi correctly guesses his password is “Nancy”. JJ gets in and says it looks like he can access his text messages from there. Clyde then arrives with his gun raised, surprising Gabi and JJ.

Chad holds his gun on Cat, reminding her that they need to make this look good. Chad calls out to Clyde that he did what he wanted and brought him Cat. Chad shouts that he knows Clyde is there but the door opens and they are shocked to see Cat’s mother, Catharina enter with a gun.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

It is so good catching up with you. Yeah, John sends his best as well. I just–I can’t believe that your dad’s turning 90 years– when did that happen? Oh, my gosh. [elevator bell dings] Yeah. Well, you know what? We will catch up soon. OK, stay close. Bye.

Dr. Evans, I am so relieved you’re here.

Oh, Leo.

I know we don’t have an appointment today, but this is an emergency. Some events have conspired that have put my mental health at great risk.

Oh, is it something about Lady Whistleblower?

No, no, my life does not revolve around the malicious machinations of that whistling wench. Although somebody taking my previous job to sabotage my current job is also an emergency.

All right, well, since you have two emergencies, let’s take one at a time. What is the problem with Lady Whistleblower?

No, no, this is not about that. This is about the cutest, funniest, smartest guy I ever blew it with.

[light jazz music] [phone ringing]

Gabi Hernadez’s office. Please hold. [ringing continues] Gabi Hernandez’s office. Would you mind holding, please? Thank you. Gabi Hernandez’s office. Ms. DiMera is not available.

This is her personal assistant, Javi. As I just said, she’s not available. Where is she? She’s in a meeting. I’m not lying. OK, fine. She’s not in a meeting. She went with her ex-boyfriend to Vancouver to pose as her dead frenemy to find some crazy escaped convict.

Ah!

What is it?

Ugh. Sorry. Just a cockroach.

[dramatic music]

OK, we’re in business. I found his laptop.

Damn, it’s password protected.

I feel like Clyde’s a simple kind of guy.

Try “Kate.” [keyboard keys clacking]

No.

“Goldman.” [keyboard keys clacking]

No again.

“Nancy.” [keyboard keys clacking]

Bingo. We’re in.

Huh.

And it looks like I can access his text messages from here. If we’re lucky, this could be exactly what we’re looking for.

[gasps]

What, did you find another cockroach?

Not a good idea. You see, any sudden movement might make me flinch, pull the trigger, and spill this little lady’s guts all over the floor.

Weren’t expecting me back so soon, were you, JJ? Or should I call you Chad? [laughs wheezingly]

[grunts] Chad, what are you doing?

We need to make this look good. Weston!

I did what you wanted! I brought you Cat Greene!

Weston! Stop playing games! I know you’re here!

Finally.

[grunting]

Mom?

What, you mean this is your–

Yeah, this is my mother.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

[tense music]

Mom. I–it’s me–it’s me, Cat. You can put the gun down.

[chuckle] You expect me to believe that? Don’t you think I would know my own daughter?

Oh, I– I know I look different. After the car accident, I had to have surgery, plastic surgery. So I look different, but it’s me. I am your daughter, I promise you. Mom.

[chuckles] He told me you would lie to me.

Who told you?

Clyde. He told me you would– you would lie to me to try to trick me.

What, you’re gonna believe Clyde? All he does is lie. Is that who gave you that gun?

Of course.

Well, why? Why would he do that?

Because he wants you both dead.

[gasping]

I got to admit, I am so humbled to know that Mr. and Mrs. Chad DiMera came all the way to visit little old me. Though I got to be honest, you do look a little different than what I remember.

And you’re even uglier than I remember.

Oh, careful there, sweetheart. You see, I have no problem hurting you.

Now, you think you’d have learned a lesson after your hubby tried to disobey me. But apparently you’re as insolent as he is.

Shame on the two of you for trying to pull a fast one.

I guess I’m just gonna have to teach your new hubby a lesson about what happens when you stick your nose where it does not belong.

That’s fine with me, Clyde. You let Gabi go, and we’ll settle our differences. She has nothing to do with this.

Au contraire. You see, she made the bad choice to accompany you on this little intrusion into my abode. So I’m afraid she’s gonna have to suffer the consequences.

So I’m not supposed to tell anyone who calls where my boss is or who she’s with, or it’s like, krrk, Off with my head. And I’m new at this job, so– I am not making this up. Ms. DiMera is out right now trying to track down some homicidal hick as we speak. Fine. Don’t believe me. Do you want to leave a message?

[line clicks] Hello? Ugh. Adios to you too.

[light jazz music] Gabriella, I sure hope that your cover story is better than mine, because I don’t know how much more of this I can take. [keyboard keys clacking] [knock at door] [sighs] Now what?

Hey, you.

Bad time?

No, no. Not at all. Come in.

You told me you were working from home today, so I thought I’d stop by and bring you a skinny mocha.

How did you know that I was dying for one?

It was a guess. And to be honest, the mocha was an excuse. I just wanted to see you.

Leo, when we talked about Javi, you said you were going to apologize.

I did. I even brought him flowers. And not one of those discount bouquets you get at the supermarket that always smell like onions ’cause they keep them next to the produce aisle. He just slammed the door in my face.

Oh, I’m sorry to hear that.

Thanks, and then I tried to apologize again, and that didn’t work. [sighs] But, Dr. Evans, that’s not what this is about. There is a new wrinkle. And I’m not talking about the frown lines that have started to appear on my forehead even though I diligently moisturize three times a day.

OK, what is the new wrinkle?

Oh, it’s not a what. It’s a who. Do you remember last summer when I tried to hook up with that guy Kerry and I told you there was no spark, I thought there was something wrong with me because Kerry was hot, and you said, oh, maybe it’s ’cause you’re not over Dimitri?

Mm-hmm. So are you saying now there’s a spark with Kerry?

No. And that wouldn’t be a problem. The problem is that Kerry is now sparking with somebody else.

Oh. [gasps] Javi?

Uh-huh, hallelujah. Dr. Evans, this is why they pay you the big bucks. OK, so now that you know what my problem is, I need your help fixing it.

Dr. Evans, I really need your help. I know it sounds paranoid, but I can’t help but feel like he’s doing this to me on purpose.

[light music]

Kerry or Javi?

Both. What if the two of them are conspiring to drive me insane? And what do I do about it? I mean, do you know how destabilizing it is to have a former hookup hooking up with another former hookup? And who knows what’s gonna happen? Aside from driving me insane, this could cause a rift in the entire space-time continuum.

Wait a minute. Wait a minute. This morning, I found a baby cricket in my shower. At least I thought it was a cricket. It could have been a locust. This could be a plague on all of our houses.

It might start raining frogs at any moment. No. No, no, no. I will not accept that. I will not live in a world where Javi is sparking with Kerry.

– I don’t want to keep you from your work. [phone ringing] I just wanted to tell you that I had fun on our date last night. And I’m hoping maybe we could do it again. [ringing continues]

[sighs]

Don’t you need to get that?

Screw it. Let’s do it again right now. I mean…go on another date.

Great. [both chuckle]

Can I take you to lunch?

How about I take you?

[dramatic music]

Kristen, hey. I wanted to talk to you about the plans for this weekend. I was hoping to pick Rachel up on Friday.

[holiday music] Hold on. What do you mean you already have plans? Wait, we scheduled this a while ago. You– I know that I missed her recital. I didn’t have a choice. I had to work at Basic Black. I think I– Kris–Kristen, I know that that’s not your fault, OK? But you know I haven’t seen Rachel in weeks. I have tickets to “The Nutcracker,” and it’s at the Salem Opera House, and– I’m sorry?

What do you mean you already took her? You knew that I wanted to take her. We talked about this. Kristen–Kristen! Hello, I was out of town. Yeah, you knew this, OK? But I was gonna be back in time to take her on the weekend. There’s always next year? There’s al– There’s always– Wow.

Brady.

Mm.

Hey.

[sighs]

Something wrong?

[sighs] I was supposed to take Rachel to “The Nutcracker” this weekend and Kristen already took her.

Oh, no.

Yeah, I– [chuckles] I told her that I was gonna take her. And she said she had to take her because I wasn’t gonna be there that weekend. She’s just– she’s just screwing with me.

Actually, I think that this might all be my fault.

[tense music]

Ms. Greene, she’s you telling the truth. This is your daughter.

Mom… you have to forget about what I used to look like and just– just listen to my voice, OK? We thought that you had died in that accident. When we found out that you didn’t, we were worried that Clyde had killed you.

Mark and Felicity and Aaron, we’ve all missed you so much. And we were so, so worried. But…here you are. You’re alive. And now we can all be a family again. I can bring you back to them, and we can all be a family again.

No. No, I–I have to do this.

No, no, no. You don’t.

Why? Why?

‘Cause–’cause Clyde told me to, and I– I have to do everything that he says.

What? No.

You’re not gonna get away with this, Clyde.

Get away with what, exactly? I come home, find two suspicious characters ransacking my apartment. They attack me. What choice do I have but to stand my ground? I mean, that’s the story the police are gonna hear when they show up. And, you know, the two of you will be dead, so they’ll just have to take my word for it.

And what are you gonna tell them about your escape from prison?

Oh, I don’t think I’ll bring that up.

No, I’m guessing you won’t have to, ’cause as soon as they recognize you from your mugshot, they’ll ship you right back to Statesville.

[scoffs] You got a lot of faith in the boys in blue, don’t you? Course, up here in the Great White North, I guess the Dudley Do-Rights all wear red, don’t they?

[chuckles] No, it’s impressive that you’re still able to make wisecracks, even knowing this isn’t gonna end well for you, that you’re screwed. So why don’t you save us all the time and the trouble and just tell us what you did with my sister’s body?

I don’t get it. How could Kristen taking Rachel to “The Nutcracker” be your fault?

Well, after she saw you and I together the other day at the pub, well, she and I got into it. And she accused me of going after you, of being a homewrecker. And she told me it was only a matter of time before the two of you got back together again.

Delusional.

Yeah, right. And I lost it. And I told her not to get her hopes up.

I would have told her the exact same thing.

Yeah, well–yeah. But then I told her that you told me that you said you made no promises to her.

[chuckles]

Yeah, I know. I–it should not have been me who was sharing that. And I am sorry. So I opened my big mouth. Now she’s taking it out on you.

[holiday music]

Actually, I know all of this.

Hmm?

When Kristen saw you, she contacted me right away and said she needed to meet with me. And she proceeded to give me holy hell about telling you how I felt about her.

Oh, I am so sorry I betrayed your confidence, Brady. Oh, I’m so sorry.

No, you didn’t.

Yeah, well–

What, were you sworn to secrecy? No, no.

No, but–

No. Ava, anyway, I told her that I want our relationship to be strictly about co-parenting Rachel, period.

Oh. Oh, I bet she took that well, huh?

She did not. [chuckles]

Hmm.

As a matter of fact, I think the reason she thinks I’m pushing her away is because of you.

She accused me of being interested in you.

So now that we are on our second date, there are some hard questions that need answered.

Such as?

Britney or Christina?

Please, is that really a choice? both: Christina. [both chuckle]

OK, my turn.

Go for it.

Stevie or Cher?

Is that a trick question?

You’re right. It’s a thousand times– both: Cher. [both chuckle]

Hey, Rafe, it’s Leo. I was just checking in to see if you’ve had any luck tracking down that phony Lady Whistle…

Blower.

I would think twice about making any demands, JJ, as long as I got a pistol in her side.

[tense music]

That gun in my side is the only reason you’re talking tough. In a fair fight, I’d put you down like the rabid dog you are.

Well, you’d think you’d know by now, Gabriella, life is not fair.

You really love threatening women, don’t you?

I just go with what works. You see, as long as JJ here wants to play the hero and spring into action, me holding this pistol in your side just renders him helpless as a kitten. Face it, JJ, I’m holding the cards here.

Well, then, I guess… I’m calling your bluff.

– What do you mean? What do you mean you have to do everything that Clyde tells you to do?

Did he threaten you?

[scoffs] Why would he do that? He’s–he’s my friend.

What? Your friend? No, no, no, no, no, no. Clyde–Mom, Clyde has been the one who was threatening to kill you. What are you talking about?

She doesn’t know what she’s saying.

What?

She’s brainwashed.

No, Clyde only told me the truth. He said you’re both bad people and you– and you want to hurt me.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Mom, I–I’m your daughter. I would never, ever hurt you. OK? I love you. Mom, I would–

No! I–I have to do this.

Cat.

[yelps] [gunshot] No!

[tense music]

I wouldn’t get too cocky with that gun, JJ.

You wouldn’t want to put your ex in a coma, would you? Like you did that poor Theo Carver.

I’m not playing around, JJ. You shoot me, my reflexes pull this trigger. Now, you kick that gun over here, or Gabi gets a bullet.

[breathing shakily]

That’s a good boy.

Now… what am I gonna do with the two of you?

Wow. Huh. My God. My own mom tried to kill me. If you didn’t tackle her when you did, I– my mom tried to shoot me. [phone beeps] What? What is it?

It’s JJ. He just sent an SOS. We need to go to Clyde’s apartment–now.

I–I can’t leave my mother here. I– [sighs] I mean–

Don’t let her out of your sight.

Ah, so Kristen accused you of being interested in me, huh? [chuckles]

Mm-hmm. Not really surprised by that, are you?

Mm, I mean, not really. I did tell you just now that after she found us together, she and I got into it. She thinks that I am moving in on her territory. You know, kept going on and on about how I like to… take other people’s men.

[holiday music]

I’m sorry about that.

[laughing] What are you sorry about? I mean, look, she’s not totally wrong. It’s happened. But anyway, you cannot control her delusions.

That’s a strong point. True.

Mm-hmm, it is. And, you know, if she’s paranoid enough to think that I made a play for you, it makes sense that she would think it worked. Right?

Right.

I mean, even if it’s ultimately unlikely.

Right.

[chuckles] Ridiculous, right?

Yeah, that’s crazy. That’s–

Yeah.

Is it, though? Is it–I mean, is it ridiculous and unlikely that two single people who get along really well–

Is it that far-fetched that there would be nothing going on between them?

[chuckles] – Rafe, I’m gonna have to call you back.

Hello. [chuckles] What do we have here?

Hey, Leo.

So I’m guessing your date went well last night, since it seems to have carried over into the morning and now the afternoon.

Actually, not that it’s any of your business, Leo, but Kerry and I did not go home together last night.

Aw. So there was no real attraction between you two?

Oh, there was. A whole lot of attraction. I just didn’t want to make the same mistake I made with you, so… we’ve decided to take it slow. Just for now, anyway.

[dramatic music]

Mom.

Everything is gonna be OK, I promise. I promise, we’re gonna figure out whatever it is that Clyde did to you, and we’re gonna find a way to undo it.

[scoffs] You can make all the promises you want. I don’t believe a word coming out of your lying mouth.

Mom, listen to me, OK? I am your daughter, I swear. I swear, I–

You know what? When I was little, you used to call me Kitty Cat. Remember? You used to call me Kitty Cat. And every day before school, you would wake me up, singing… * Meow, meow, Kitty Cat * * Time to wake up * And then you bought me this stuffed cat that had a little spot on the paw. And it was because I– see, I have this– this freckle right here that you called a beauty mark. You said–you said that only the specialist kinds of little kitty cats had marks like these because– because I was your– [sighs] I was your special kitty cat, Mom. [sobs] It’s really me. It’s really me.

Cat?

[crying]

Is it really you?

Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah.

[chuckles]

Oh. Oh, Cat. I’m so, so sorry.

[gentle music] I can’t believe I was gonna hurt you.

It’s OK. It’s OK. None of that matters. None of that matters anymore because I have you back. That’s all that matters. That’s all I care about.

Please… untie me so I can– I can hug my baby girl.

[crying]

[holiday music]

So you’re saying that… Kristen’s crazy delusions about you and me are not that crazy after all.

Oh, no, no, no. They’re crazy.

Oh. [chuckles]

I mean, nutty.

OK.

I mean, come on, there’s obviously nothing– there’s nothing going on here.

Nope. Nope.

Right? No, it’s just that you make it sound like as if you could never be attracted to me and I could never be attracted to you and crazier than that is, we’d be attracted to each other.

No.

That’s what it sounds like.

No, I didn’t mean that.

Oh, OK.

That’s not what I meant, OK?

Then what’d you mean, then?

Look, I meant that– mm, OK.

All right, I’m–I’m not saying it’s–it’s–it’s totally out of the question that at some point, you and I may move beyond a friendship.

Ooh.

But look, I mean, it’s just–it’s absolutely nuts that Kristen has any reason to be jealous now, right? I mean, since you and I, we– we’ve barely hung out, and we’ve had just a few brief conversations. And honestly, they’ve mostly been about your son and my employee Sophia, right?

True.

So, yeah, I– it’s not like we’ve ever focused on, you know, getting to know each other.

Right?

Right. But maybe it’s time we did… focus on that.

So is there anything else inquiring minds need to know?

No. Look, I’m just being friendly, OK?

No, you’re not being friendly, Leo. You’re being nosy, which is part of your job, right, since you write a gossip column? Oh, no, wait. I’m Lady Whistleblower now, right? You’ve moved on to writing novelas.

Right. I have. Which means anything you tell me goes no further than the Brady Pub. Although I will undoubtedly tell my shrink, who is helping me to recover from… ruining a really good thing. In fact, it was her who urged me to apologize for being an idiot. And I had to tell her that said apology fell on deaf ears, which made her feel terrible, like she had failed me.

Wait, why would I care that your shrink feels terrible?

Well, you wouldn’t… [scoffs] Obviously. I was just pointing out that that poor woman, whose ego is now bruised for having made things worse for me, would likely benefit from knowing that– that maybe you aren’t so angry with me anymore and that maybe you’ve realized that I have a good heart…

And that– that I am way more fun than this guy.

[scoffs] I beg your pardon?

OK, look, I’m sorry. I don’t know that for a fact. You seem like a nice enough guy, reasonably intelligent. I just don’t really get a fun vibe from you.

OK, enough. You don’t get to insult Kerry.

What, it’s not–it’s just an observation, that’s all. Some people just aren’t fun or funny. That doesn’t mean Kerry doesn’t have plenty of other wonderful attributes. Like, I would bet you are…

Good at math? Maybe he has wonderful handwriting. Not that anybody writes by hand anymore. It is a dying art.

OK, you know, Leo, one thing I do pride myself on is having excellent taste.

Ah, there you go.

And you’re the new head writer of “Body & Soul,” aren’t you?

You watch it?

I grew up on it. Used to be a great show.

[chuckles] Used to be?

Yeah, before you ran it into the ground.

[gentle music]

It’s tangled. There we go. OK.

Oh, my sweet girl.

[chuckles]

Oh! I love you so much.

Oh, I love you too, Mom.

Thank you. Thank you for rescuing me.

[tense music]

Wait a sec. Wait. What are you doing? Stop. What are you doing? What are you doing?

I’m sorry, sweetheart.

What are you doing?

I can’t let that son of a bitch get away with this.

Mom? Mom! No, no, no, no, no. Mom. Mom!

You know, I’ve done enough business to know when supply exceeds what the situation demands. Like now, for instance. I got myself two hostages when all I really need is one. So I guess that makes you expendable.

What, are you just gonna shoot him? [breathing shakily]

Oh, I could shoot you instead.

Huh, I didn’t think so. It does seem a bit cruel to old Jack and Jennifer, though. I mean, after all, I did take the life of their daughter, Abigail. And now to do the same to their son?

But, you know, them’s the breaks.

[gasps]

So what you saying, Brady?

What am I saying? I’m saying I got two tickets to the hottest show in town, right? “The Nutcracker.”

[laughs]

Now, it’s a great show. It is festive, fun, and traditional. And my daughter obviously has seen it. So I would love if you would go with me. I’ll even splurge for dinner.

Oh.

All right, and I’m not talking about the Bistro, OK?

Oh. Oh.

And I’ll give you one even better.

What’s that?

We don’t even have to talk about my son or Sophia at all.

All right.

Now, listen, if you’re scared…

Oh.

Of incurring the wrath of Kristen DiMera, then you– you don’t have to go.

OK. There’s something you need to know about me. I don’t scare easily.

So what are you saying?

I’m saying it’s a date.

[chuckles]

FYI, the network is very happy with “Body & Soul’s” writing, and our numbers are excellent.

Well, as if that’s gonna last. I mean, really, who needs to waste time watching when they can just get the 4 from the new and improved Lady W?

For your information, viewers will soon only be able to get said 4 by tuning in because I’ve hired a private detective to stop the story leaks.

Great. Good luck to you, Leo. Bye. Adios.

Yeah, adios to you too also. Vaya con Dios.

So…

Mm.

Taylor or Beyoncé? both: Gaga.

[chuckles]

[tense music]

[groans]

Wakey, wakey, Clyde.

Chad? [groans]

I bet you’re surprised to see me. Thought I was dead, didn’t you? Sent Cat’s mother to kill me. Whom you obviously brainwashed.

Well… never hurts to have a spare assassin, you know. [grunts] Besides, she was already a hostage. I figure I might as well make use of her.

No, it was a smart plan. Too bad it failed. You see, Cat’s with Catharina right now at the Pink Kitten, keeping an eye on her. She’s gonna make sure she doesn’t hurt anyone.

[line ringing]

Come on, Chad, pick up the phone. [sighs]

[line clicks] [scoffs]

[line beeps] Voicemail, damn. [breathing shakily] Chad, it’s Cat. My mother is on the way to Clyde’s apartment. She has the gun.

Yeah? Well, Abigail is– [gunshot]

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[dramatic music]

[suspenseful music]

– This is my grandmother’s necklace. My mother gave it to her as a birthday gift.

I have never seen her wear them.

[laughs] Oh, no. She thought it was too regal for Salem.

That sounds like Gram.

I always wondered what happened to it.

Hey, Doug. What you doing?

Ah, seeing all these ornaments always seems like the unofficial kickoff to the holiday season. But this year, all I can think about is Julie having to go through Christmas without Doug.

Yeah, the annual hanging of the Horton ornaments will definitely be bittersweet this year.

Well, Julie’s gonna need her family and friends around her now more than ever.

Yeah.

She’s not the only one.

Ah.

Hey.

How about a hug for your sister-in-law?

Yeah.

Oh, man.

Baby.

Hi. Oh.

You were up late last night.

Yeah, I just had some long talks with Hope.

A lot to catch up on, I’m sure.

Yeah. I mean, I couldn’t sleep anyway because I cannot stop thinking about JJ and Chad going up against Clyde Weston on their own.

Look, they’re both smart, capable young men. And JJ has training from the police.

Jack, I know all of this. I do. I just want to hear from them.

And we will. We will. Look, it’s still early in Vancouver.

[holiday music]

What’s going on?

I’m–I’m–I’m sorry. I didn’t–I didn’t mean to wake you, but you– you kind of had me trapped.

Oh, my God. I’m so embarrassed.

No, it’s OK. You were always a cuddler.

[chuckles]

Guess some things never change.

[soft music]

[clears throat]

[inhales sharply, grunts] Mm. No. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!

Hey, hey, hey, hey.

No, no, no, no!

Cat, Cat, Cat, wake up. Wake up.

[panting] Chad.

Hey.

Oh, God.

You were having a nightmare.

I don’t know. Oh, my God. It was so real. It was so real. Oh, my God. It was Clyde. He–he went through with his threat. He killed my mother. [panting]

It’s just–just a nightmare.

No, no.

Just a dream.

What if it wasn’t, Chad? What if it wasn’t? What if–what if she’s really dead? What if–what if the dream was real and everything that I’ve done, everything that I– everything that I did to get my mom back, everything that I did to you, what if it was all for nothing? I can’t. I can’t. [sobbing] I’m sorry.

Come here.

[sobbing]

[dramatic music]

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

[panting] I’m–I’m sorry. I’m sorry to fall apart like that.

[clears throat]

My God.

It’s fine.

[dramatic music] You’re worried about your mom.

Yeah.

Losing your mom would be a nightmare whether you’re asleep or awake.

Yeah, except she’s not here to make it all better, right? [sighs] Whenever I used to get like that when I was little, she would always come put me back to sleep. There was, like, six months where I had constant nightmares. I was at a sleepover and saw “Scream” when I was way too young. Got in trouble for that, but the nightmares were the real punishments. [sighs, chuckles] She would come in and hold me and sing to me and– till I– till I was OK again, so…

I just–I lost her once before– I thought I lost her, and I just–I can’t– [sighs] I just can’t go through that again.

Yeah, I know what that’s like.

[clears throat]

Chad, I’m really sorry.

We’ll just stay focused on what we got to do here. That’s bring–bring Clyde to justice.

Yeah, and–and get Abigail’s remains.

He said that he was gonna reach out with instructions this morning?

Yeah. [clears throat] And I’m sure JJ will reach out to us as soon as he does.

[sighs]

I guess I should say thanks for keeping me warm.

That was not my intent.

Oh, something else? It’s OK. You can admit you miss me.

Ah! You’re exactly the same, you brat.

Oh, you’re one to talk.

Let’s nip this in the bud. The only reason that I was cuddled up to you was because I was dreaming about–

Oh, not Stefan. Yuck.

Don’t. I loved him, JJ.

I don’t know why. The guy was an ass. He took advantage of my sister, and he treated you like dirt. You’re lucky to be rid of him.

Hmm. Not feeling so lucky. Signed the divorce papers and skipped town without even saying goodbye. That’s how much I meant to him.

Proving my point that he is an ass.

Look, I’m sorry. I get it.

[sighs]

[sighs] You loved him. So for–for what it’s worth, I’m– I’m sorry things ended the way they did.

Thanks.

[sighs]

We should get dressed. Big day ahead of us.

Oh, no, you’re right. I know JJ and Chad are strong, and they are so capable. It–it’s just, I–

It’s hard not to worry. I know.

Yeah. This family has suffered so many losses the last few years, and I would like to think that I’m strong and–and– and that I’m resilient. But, Jack, I’m telling you, if anything happens to JJ–

No, no, no. JJ’s gonna be fine. You remember, he needs to do this for his sister.

[holiday music] Chad needs to do this for his wife.

And you and I, we need to believe that they will succeed in their mission for our daughter, for Abigail. Mm.

Hope, we are so sorry about your dad. Really, we all loved him so much.

I know. Thank you.

So how you doing? How you holding up?

[holiday music]

[sighs] You know, it’s Julie I worry about. I mean, even though I know she’s surrounded by people she loves, I–I worry. [alarm beeping]

Oh, sorry. I set an alarm. I’m due to meet up with Jack. I could put it off.

No, no, no. Steve, I understand. I know what’s going on.

How long are you in town?

Actually, I’m–I’m flying back in a little while. I need to get back to Bo. You should go. It’s important.

All right. All right. But listen, please know I’m always thinking about you and Bo, always.

I know.

We heard that he squeezed your hand the other day.

But it was a false alarm?

It was. It was.

Just waiting for a sign, anything positive, we know how hard that is.

You know what? Bo is gonna wake up. I know it. Everyone in this room knows it. So keep the faith, OK?

Always.

I love you.

I love you too, Stevie.

OK. I’ll see you at home.

All right, babe.

Bye.

Bye.

See you, bud.

Julie must be so grateful to have you here.

I feel badly, I have to leave so fast.

No one faults you for that, Julie included.

I’m grateful she has so many people supporting her. Oh, wait– supporting, people. Have either one of you met my father’s long-lost grandson?

[dramatic music]

Oh, hey, Julie. Just looking at all the family photos, still putting the names with faces.

Ah, well, when you draw a blank, you check with me. [laughs]

I appreciate that.

Yeah, most of those people are– are my relatives. Your grandfather didn’t have a lot of blood relatives, just your father and Hope, of course.

And her kids are Ciara and Shawn-Douglas. Did I get it right?

You got it perfect. [both laugh] Yeah, this is Shawn-Douglas. He’s been going through a hard time right now, but he’ll come through it.

And he was a cop?

Oh, he was a wonderful police officer, just like his mother. Yup, bad guys always knew they were up against it when those two were on the case. [laughs]

I’ll bet.

I’m so sorry you didn’t have a chance to, well, bond, get to know Hope’s kids. Ciara is really something too. You know, she was the only one in the family that was able to open this time capsule.

Oh, yes. Yeah, you mentioned it yesterday.

I–I–I found where Jennifer had put it away for safekeeping. And I really want to show you all the wonderful things inside. And I’m kind of eager to look at them all too. I know there’s a gorgeous necklace in here that belonged to my grandmother.

Oh, that’s strange. It isn’t here.

I knew Doug had a son out there, but I haven’t heard anything about the guy for, I mean, years.

God, I can’t imagine how it is for Julie. I mean, here she is, mourning her husband, and then this grandson of his shows up in Salem that she never knew, bearing his name.

But inviting this guy to move in who she doesn’t really know, who she just met?

Yeah.

You don’t think that’s a good idea?

No. No, I do not think it’s a good idea at all. I’m sorry, I don’t mean to be the cynic here, but I don’t completely trust this so-called Doug Williams.

So-called? Hope, do you think this guy is not who he says he is?

[dramatic music]

[sighs]

I don’t understand this. There was a beautiful diamond necklace in here. It belonged to my grandmother, but– but it’s gone.

Hey, you two.

Jennifer, what happened to our grandmother’s necklace? I–I want to show it to Doug, but it–it’s not in here.

Julie, I–I am so sorry. I–I thought that we would have this all figured out before you found out.

Found out what, darling?

I don’t–I don’t know how to say this, but we think that the necklace was stolen.

Stolen?

Yeah.

When?

We think it happened right after we left for the funeral.

Then you knew about it and didn’t tell me?

You were dealing with so much, and we just didn’t want to upset you.

Did you call the police?

No, no, we haven’t called the police yet, Julie.

Why ever not?

Because we think it was stolen by someone close to us.

Thanks for meeting me, Jack.

No problem. No problem at all.

[holiday music]

So any word from JJ?

No, I mean, not since last night when I called him and we talked about what happened to Doug.

Hmm.

Look, I–I told Jennifer that JJ’s gonna be fine, but I’m worried about JJ and Chad. I mean, they’re–they’re going into this whole Clyde situation totally blind.

Maybe not totally.

What do you mean?

I called in some favors last night with the ISA after you told me about this little field trip to Vancouver. With a general locale, it’s easier to narrow down the search for Weston.

What do you know?

Well, I’m still waiting to hear, but they’re on it. [phone chimes] Oh, that might be them now.

When do you think we’ll hear from Clyde?

Soon, I hope.

Do you think there’s a problem? Is he onto us? JJ, look.

[dramatic music]

It’s addressed to Chad.

It has to be from Clyde.

Damn it.

What? Tell me.

“Bring Cat Greene to the back room “of the Pink Kitten Club, 0:00 a.m. sharp.”

Cat, what’s taking so long?

[scoffs] I was getting dressed. What is your problem?

I told you, I don’t want you out of my sight for that long.

OK, it’s not like I’m gonna jump out the bathroom window to escape. I have to stick with you if I have any hope of finding my mother, OK? Just chill. I’m not the enemy anymore.

Chill? No, listen, I can’t afford to mess this up.

I know that. And I’m not just in this for personal reasons, contrary to popular belief. I want to help you find Abigail’s remains.

Yeah, so you said.

I mean it.

I hate what I did. I hate that I put you through hell after all you’ve already been through, after you lost your wife in that horrible way. So I–I really, genuinely want to do anything that I can to help lessen the pain that you feel now because– I don’t even know why I’m still saying all this. I–never mind.

Say what? Say it.

I–because I still care about you, Chad.

You sure have a strange way of showing someone you care about them. I mean, all you’ve ever done is lie to me. That’s–that’s kind of the opposite of what you do when you care about someone, yeah?

I know. I know. I know that it must have felt that way. But I– it’s not like I was lying. I–I wasn’t trying to make a profit or something like that. I ju–I was trying to save my mother, Chad.

Stop! Nothing–nothing you can say is gonna justify what you did. What you did was cruel. So if you’re expecting forgiveness–

You know I’m not. You know I’m not expecting that. I’m not expecting anything from you. I don’t expect you to return my feelings. But yes, I–I–I don’t just care about you. I have feelings for you, which I really wish I didn’t. I really wish I didn’t because of the way you’re staring at me right now. I must be a glutton for punishment, even telling you this. I get it; you’re gonna hate me forever, right? I get that. But quite frankly, like, I don’t know… [knock at door] What I’m supposed to– [sighs]

[dramatic music]

Who is it?

It’s us, Gabi and JJ.

Clyde’s made contact.

Jennifer, please, tell me who you think stole the necklace.

We really think that it was your brother, Steven.

My brother? No. Why do you accuse him? What proof do you have?

Julie, I mean, he does have a–a history with this sort of thing.

History is not proof. He’s changed. I–I know he wanted to change. He told me all about it. He– listen, he went to India, to an ashram in India, and–and he met this man, this yogi. I–I can’t remember his name. But anyway, he had– he had an epiphany.

Well, you may not believe it, but I believe it. I’ve been to India. I know how that place can–can change a person and– besides, my brother has a good heart. I–I don’t see how you can point the finger at him just because of his history.

Julie, it is not just that. He had the opportunity.

Do you remember when we were leaving for the funeral?

Steven? Steven?

Where is he?

Julie, what happened?

Ah.

Everyone’s waiting in their cars.

Sorry. Steven forgot his phone. He came back to get it.

Oh.

Of course I remember what happened before we went to the memorial. That does not mean that he stole the necklace.

Well, who else could it have been?

I think you’re right to be cautious about this young man. I mean, look what happened with the imposter with Abigail.

Yeah, exactly. I told Jennifer about my suspicions. She said she’d keep an eye on the situation.

We will too.

Thank you. I appreciate it. But you know what? At the very least, I am going to verify Doug’s story before I go. His father, Charles, is obviously my best bet.

Do you know how to reach him?

I don’t, unfortunately. My father agreed to keep his distance a long time ago so Robert Leclair could raise Charles as his own. But… I do know someone who should be able to get me the information I need.

What’s the Pink Kitten Club?

I looked it up. It’s a–it’s a strip club.

Mm.

Oh, classy. Sounds like a place Clyde would hang out.

It’s closed during the day, so it’ll be deserted.

Which is exactly how he would want it if he was setting up a trap.

But isn’t that why JJ and I are here, to act as decoys?

Yeah, that was before we had a bead on what Clyde’s plans were. Now that we do–

Yeah, it was– it was one thing when we thought we’d have Clyde on our turf. Chad could see him coming a mile away from here.

Yeah, now that we lost our advantage, what’s to stop Clyde from shooting both of you on the spot?

Yeah, Chad’s right. I think we’re gonna have to go ourselves.

I could be your backup.

Make that we.

Gabi.

No debate.

No, no, no, Clyde–Clyde will have eyes on the place. He’ll see you coming.

OK, that– look, that just means that we got to find some way to turn the tables on him. And he wants to see you at 0:00, so clock’s ticking. [phone ringing]

It’s Steve. Maybe he can help us figure something out.

Steve, hey. We could really use your help.

I know. Jack and Jennifer told me where you are and what you’re doing. So I did some digging. I have some useful intel for you.

So you’re saying ISA helped you get a line on where Clyde’s been hiding?

Yeah, that’s right. So I have an address for an apartment on the outskirts of the city. I’ll text it to you.

Great. Thank you. That’ll give us an edge. We’ll check it out right away.

You are gonna call in for backup with the local authorities first, right?

Look, 0:00’s coming up fast. We don’t really have time to coordinate with local PD.

Chad, I really wish you’d told me about this as soon as Weston called you.

I’m sorry. He told me not to tell anyone.

You told JJ and Gabi.

I told them out of necessity. Look, we’re really grateful for the assist.

OK. Well, you can thank me by not getting yourselves killed.

[dramatic music]

Thank you, Harris. I really appreciate the help. OK, talk soon.

[holiday music]

I didn’t know you were still in touch.

Yeah, he keeps me up-to-date on the search for Megan.

Any news on that front?

No, nothing, unfortunately. But now that he’s working for both the Navy SEALs and the ISA, I’m confident he’ll be able to get me Charles’ contact information pretty… [phone beeps] Quickly. Speaking of, there it is. All right, well, wish me luck.

[dramatic music]

Hi. Is this Charles Leclair?

Hello, this is Hope Brady, Doug Williams’ daughter. Yes, it is… very nice to finally speak. That’s very kind. Thank you for saying that.

Well, I’m actually calling about your son.

Jennifer, I think you’re jumping to conclusions. I don’t see how anybody who knows us could have done this to us. No, darling, it had to be a stranger. Somebody must have broken into the house right after we left for the memorial.

Well, he’s not upstairs.

Well, he wasn’t in the study either. [phone beeps]

Oh.

Oh, it’s Steven.

OK.

Yeah, he found the phone, and he’ll meet us at St. Luke’s.

Great, you’ll ride with us instead, OK?

OK.

We need to go.

Yeah.

OK. Come on.

Julie, we wondered if it could have been a random stranger. But then why would they just take the necklace? Nothing else was missing. And if it was a random stranger, how would they even know there was a necklace in here to steal?

I have no idea. But my heart tells me my brother did not do it.

Cat and I will go to the club. We’ll try to stall Clyde for as long as we can. Meanwhile, you two go to the apartment, see if you can find locations for Abigail’s body and Cat’s mother.

I don’t like the idea of you going to the club without backup. Maybe we should call local PD after all.

What? No, no, no, we cannot do that. If Clyde gets a hint that the cops are involved, he could kill my mother.

Look, so how are you going to escape what’s sure to be a dangerous situation?

What if we get what we need from his place and then call the cops? We’ll make sure that your mother’s safe first.

Thank you, Gabi.

So you’re on her side?

Hating Clyde has a way of bringing people together.

But does she hate him? How do we know she’s still not working with him?

For the last time, I’m not working with the guy. I want him in chains as much as you all do.

Look, JJ, I got the same reservations you do.

Look, we have no choice but to trust her right now. If we want this plan to succeed, then we need to stop debating and we need to start moving.

Just one question. What–what if Gabi and–and JJ come up empty?

We’ll text you. And look, if you–if you don’t want us to call the cops–

You can’t, please. Not until my mother is safe.

I’m sorry, but that’s Chad’s call.

That’s how we’ll play it.

OK. So just so we’re clear, you two are gonna have to get the hell out of there all on your own.

That’s a powerful accusation floating around this room, Jennifer. And my brother isn’t here to defend himself.

Ciara and Lucas did confront Steven about stealing Gram’s necklace.

[dramatic music]

Well, Steven didn’t tell me about that.

Well, I mean, he denied it, obviously.

Look, I–I–I know this isn’t my place, but didn’t you say that your brother left town in a hurry and that his preferred way of going in and out of the house was through a window?

Yes. [phone beeps]

Excuse me. I’m sorry.

Jack needs me to meet him in the square. I hate to leave you in– in the middle of this, but–

Well, we’ll talk about it later.

Yes, and–and–and we’ll– we’ll figure out the answer soon. We will. I love you.

Take care, Jennifer. I wish I knew how to help.

Are you OK?

No. [crying] No. Definitely not.

It meant so much to me that my brother came to the memorial service. I hadn’t seen him in so long, and he– he was a lifeline. He was a blessing, you–you understand? He was a blessing for me. And–and then… to hear him accused by his own family of being a thief–

It can’t be.

It would break my heart.

Julie, I think there’s something that you should know.

Thank you. Yes, sure, definitely. Someday we’ll meet in person. Thank you. Goodbye.

So what did he say?

My half brother Charles just confirmed that he does, in fact, have a son named Doug. Charles recently told him all about his past and his connection to our family. He said Doug seemed very interested.

He was surprised that he was here in Salem, then said it made sense.

So Doug’s story checks out. He’s not an imposter.

But you are still not satisfied.

Oh, no, he–he’s– he’s my nephew. There’s no doubting that anymore.

But I still wonder, what is his agenda? The timing, all of it.

Julie’s very vulnerable right now. I don’t want her being taken advantage of.

Well, like I said, we will look after her.

Thank you. I appreciate it. Oh, I need to go. It is late. I have to be at the airport soon. Shoot.

So like we said, we really are so sad about your dad.

Yeah.

Thank you.

And when you get back to Bo, you tell my little brother that his big brother said, wake the hell up, and that I love him. OK?

I tell him that every day. I’ll pass your message along.

Thank you. Mm. So good to see you.

You too. I love you guys so much.

Love you, beauty.

Oh, love you.

Yeah. Love you.

OK, I got to skedaddle here.

Safe travels, all right?

Yeah, OK.

Bye.

[sighs]

That’s the apartment number Steve gave us.

I’m not taking any chances. [gun cocking]

Hold this. I’ll pick the lock.

OK, there’s no one here. We got to work fast. You check the desk. I’ll search over here.

OK.

At least we know we’re in the right place– fake ID with Clyde’s pic. He’s going by the name George Hazard.

Keep looking. Maybe we can figure out where Clyde’s keeping my sister’s remains and Cat’s mother.

This is where we’re supposed to be.

Doesn’t look like anyone’s here.

Guess we’ll just have to be patient.

[scoffs] Could this place be any more skeevy?

What does that matter?

Matters if we end up dying here and the last thing we see are greased walls and fluorescent lights.

Well, then I guess we’ll just have to make sure things go our way, then, won’t we?

How are we gonna do that?

Like this.

What the hell are you doing?

What is it, Doug?

[dramatic music]

What you should know is…

That even if your brother did let you down, you can count on me. I’m always here for you, no matter what.

Thank you. That…means a lot. [sniffles]

[clears throat] Sorry to interrupt.

Oh, Hope.

Hi.

Hi.

It’s time to say goodbye.

Oh, no. Not so soon.

I know. I know. I’m–I hate that I have to leave so soon. I really need to get back to Bo.

Of course you do.

You belong to him.

Oh, Julie.

My dad, he loved you. He loved you so, so much.

But you know that.

I do. And I feel his love. I feel it all around me.

I hope you feel it too, darling, because your father– your father adored you.

I know that.

I know that.

I do feel his love every day. I always have. I always will.

Are you gonna be OK?

Yes, I have backup.

I’m much more concerned that you’re going to be OK.

Yeah, I’m–

I’ll call you when I land.

Please.

And we’ll chat.

We’ll chat.

OK.

Promise?

I promise.

It was so wonderful just to see your face.

Oh, Julie. [breathes shakily] [chuckles] [sighs] I know. Let–let me get you a little box of Grandma’s doughnuts to take on the trip.

No, no doughnuts. I’m OK.

No, no, no. I insist. I insist.

OK.

I’ll be right back.

All right, thank you.

Well, it was nice to meet you, Aunt Hope.

Yeah, it was nice to meet you too, Doug. I hope you’ll take good care of Julie while I’m gone.

I just gave her that exact promise.

Good. I’m really glad to hear that.

Because you should know that I am… very protective of Julie.

And if you should hurt her in any way, I’ll be back– but not so friendly next time.

[sighs] Hey.

What’s going on? Is this about Chad and JJ? Are they OK?

Yeah. Steve’s got some news. We wanted you to know right away.

Chad and Cat are scheduled to meet Weston soon.

What, in person? What happened to JJ and Gabi being decoys?

Chad just texted us the plan. He had to change it on the fly. The good news is that Steve was able to track down an address for Clyde.

So Chad and Cat are gonna stall Weston while JJ and Gabi search his place for information about Abigail.

OK, well, that doesn’t sound any less dangerous.

It certainly puts a lot more pressure on Chad. But look, this might be the only shot that we have to ever find Ab– [sighs] To find our daughter’s body. And that’s why our son is there.

Yeah. And JJ, he’s a really good detective. So if there is something to find, our son will find it.

Ah!

What is it?

Ugh. Sorry. Just a cockroach.

OK, we’re in business. I found his laptop.

Damn, it’s password protected.

I feel like Clyde’s a simple kind of guy. Let’s see. Try “Kate.” [keyboard keys clacking]

No.

“Goldman.” [keyboard keys clacking]

No again.

“Nancy.” [keyboard keys clacking]

Bingo. We’re in.

Huh.

And it looks like I can access his text messages from here. If we’re lucky, this could be exactly what we’re looking for.

[gasps]

What, did you find another cockroach?

Hey! What are you doing?

We need to make this look good.

Clyde Weston!

I did what you wanted. I brought you Cat Greene.

Clyde!

I know you’re here. Finally.

[grunts]

Mom?

Days of Our Lives Update

Update written by Joseph

Leo sits in the town square with his laptop. Rafe joins him and says he got his message, so he asks what was so urgent that he needed to be there immediately. Leo shows Rafe his laptop and says that Lady Whistleblower has struck again.

Jada goes home where Javi is using his phone and asks Javi if she was interrupting something.

Joy meets EJ outside of the Brady Pub. EJ gives her the check and orders her to pack her things and go. Joy hesitates so EJ asks if they have a problem.

At the DiMera Mansion, Alex argues to Johnny that Joy doesn’t want to leave her job and admitted she loves her job when he tried to talk her out of leaving. Johnny gets upset and tells Alex that this is none of his business, telling him to butt out before he messes everything up right as Chanel comes home and asks what the hell is going on in here. Chanel asks if anyone is going to tell her what they are fighting about. Johnny claims it’s nothing but Chanel says it didn’t sound like nothing. Alex then informs her that it’s about Joy.

Jada notes that Javi seems very protective of his phone. Javi jokes that he was putting together his top secret Christmas shopping list. Jada mentions being surprised that Rafe didn’t beat her home since she stayed at the office late. Javi informs her that he actually did but he got a message and left. Jada asks about the message. Javi says it was for his job at Black Patch and apparently from Leo.

Rafe laughs off Leo’s emergency being about Lady Whistleblower. Leo complains that his impostor has dropped another column stuffed with more Body and Soul spoilers including his story about an island called Weivenip being the backwards version of Pineview which came to him in a dream. Rafe questions the plot holes to the island. Leo argues that he hired him to find the impostor before everything gets spoiled.

Chanel questions why Alex and Johnny would be fighting about Joy. Alex informs her that there’s something that she needs to know as it affects her. Chanel asks what it is. Alex starts to explain but Johnny jumps in and claims that Alex slept with Joy.

EJ tells Joy to take the check while Joy complains that she really liked her job. EJ acknowledges the sacrifice and says that’s why he’s offering such a generous sum, reminding her that she agreed to take it. EJ adds that there are plenty of jobs out there and with this money, she could go back to school and get a master’s degree or she could head to Los Angeles for acting with a fresh start. EJ mentions having an old friend on the west coast who is a filmmaker always looking for fresh talent. EJ insists that he can help her, but she knows what she must do. Joy then takes the check as Kate walks up and questions what is going on.

Jada tells Javi that she was pretty surprised when Leo showed up on Thanksgiving and hired Rafe to find out who was spoiling stories. Javi says he was more surprised that Rafe accepted even after he went over a list of Leo’s crimes. Javi remarks that Rafe didn’t listen to him when he told him not to meet with Leo. Jada questions why he would tell him that.

Leo shows Rafe more of Lady Whistleblower spoiling his stories and complains that somebody is obviously out to get him. Leo adds that none of the cast knew about the stories. Rafe asks if anyone else had access to his computer. Leo mentions catching Javi on it after he came out of the shower in his room. Rafe says Javi told him all about it and how Leo accused him of being Lady Whistleblower. Leo confirms he did but he thinks subconsciously that he thought Javi was too good for him, so to protect himself, he pushed him away. Leo says he reminds himself every day that good things are possible. Leo admits he feels really terrible about screwing things up with Javi. Rafe asks if there are any other suspects. Leo says that Salem is fertile ground for producing a cohort of the duplicitous and underhanded. Leo then stops and declares he thinks he knows who it is.

Kate didn’t realize EJ and Joy knew each other. EJ tells Kate that they were just talking about her which Kate questions. EJ says she is the producer of Body and Soul, so he thinks Kate should know that Joy has decided to quit the show. Kate questions Joy as to why that is. Joy responds that she’s not really sure it’s for her, claiming she has anxiety and that she’s missing New York. Kate says she’s not unsympathetic but she can’t allow her to quit because she has an ironclad contract and she wouldn’t want to be in breach of that.

Chanel questions Alex sleeping with Joy. Johnny claims that Alex just told him. Chanel questions why Alex would tell Johnny that. Johnny says he sensed something going on with them at rehearsal, so Alex dropped by to go over some script edits and he admitted it. Chanel questions why they were fighting about it. Johnny says he was just concerned that it might not be a good idea and asks Alex if that’s right.

Jada questions Javi as to why he didn’t want Rafe to meet Leo. Javi calls Leo a complete and total jerk for accusing him of being Lady Whistleblower off of sketchy circumstantial evidence after they had a pretty hot first date. Javi says that after Leo turned on him, he realized he was better off without him, so he doesn’t want Rafe to be sucked in to Leo’s vortex. Jada thinks it’s sweet that Javi wants to protect Rafe, but jokes that they aren’t going to sleep together and Rafe is only helping Leo find out whoever took over the column. Jada asks Javi why he doesn’t want Rafe to help Leo with the case.

Leo tells Rafe that he believes Kate is the Lady Whistleblower since he pitches her the stories so she knows them. Rafe questions why Kate would want to sabotage her own show. Leo then suggests it’s both Kate and Abe since they are the producers. Leo relates it to the plot of the Broadway musical The Producers, suggesting Abe and Kate are going to make money by tanking their own show. Rafe says he doesn’t buy it. Leo tells Rafe to come up with something then and asks if he has any ideas. Rafe responds that he actually does.

EJ tells Kate that he’s well aware that Joy has a contract. Kate tells EJ that contracts are legally binding. EJ claims that is why Joy hired him. EJ says that Joy is a young actress with talent and knows what is best for her, so he took her case for free. EJ says he’s sure they can work this out for everyone’s benefit. EJ says Joy has become deeply unhappy, so he’s sure Kate won’t hold her to some contract and wouldn’t get the best out of an actress who already has a foot out the door. Kate says she wouldn’t want someone working for her who doesn’t want to be there. Kate argues that Joy is their Regan and everyone loves her. EJ argues that she could recast the role as he’s told that’s a fairly common practice. Kate says they could but she doesn’t want to. Kate argues that Joy has a very special gift and if she puts her mind to it, she thinks Joy will be a big star. Kate promises that she and Abe will work with her to address any concerns. Kate asks Joy to reconsider and not break her contract.

Chanel questions Alex and Johnny having a knock down drag out fight because Alex is having a fling with Joy. Alex goes along with it and claims it’s true that Johnny wasn’t happy when he told him that he slept with Joy. Chanel asks if that’s what Johnny meant by saying Alex is going to ruin everything. Johnny claims he was just concerned after the whole Alex and Stephanie fiasco, that this would only cause more problems. Alex says he was just telling Johnny that what he and Joy do are their business, joking that it’s not like they are married so they aren’t hurting anybody. Chanel says that’s not exactly true.

Jada questions Javi being worried about Rafe taking Leo’s case. Javi talks about not trusting Leo and questions if Rafe will ever figure out who Lady Whistleblower is, joking about who it could be. Javi remarks that Leo seems adamant to take someone down for this and if Rafe doesn’t find the culprit, he wouldn’t put it past Leo to blame Rafe himself. Jada doubts that, pointing out that this person is messing with Leo’s livelihood, so if she was Leo, she would want it solved too. Javi gets a text and says he has to go, then quickly exits which Jada calls abrupt.

Leo asks Rafe who his suspect is but Rafe doesn’t want to say. Leo questions why not. Rafe says he doesn’t want to accuse anyone without concrete evidence. Rafe feels if he tells Leo, then he will accuse them. Leo argues that he’s paying Rafe. Rafe says that’s all the more reason to stay tight-lipped about it. Rafe says they cannot let the person know they are investigating and if Leo goes around making false accusations, word will get out. Rafe tells Leo to give him some time and if he comes up with something concrete, he’ll let him know. Leo asks Rafe to work fast and then asks if he would be willing to put in a good word for him with Javi. Leo argues that he is a decent guy. Rafe agrees to put in a good word for him but warns that once Javi puts his mind to something, he isn’t likely to change it and it seems like he’s made up his mind. Leo acknowledges that he really messed that up as Rafe then walks away.

Alex questions who Chanel thinks is getting hurt by he and Joy sleeping together. Chanel argues that it hurts Joy because there’s clearly a power imbalance in their relationship. Chanel says it’s not the same as the actor and the publicist, but Joy is new in town and vulnerable. Chanel adds that she and Johnny promised to look out for Joy. Chanel brings up that Alex still isn’t over Stephanie so she doesn’t want Joy to get hurt. Alex tells Chanel not to worry because he doesn’t want anyone to get hurt either.

EJ tells Kate that Joy will not be pressured in to anything as she’s made her decision. Kate tells EJ to let Joy speak for herself. Joy responds that Kate is right and declares that she wants to stay. Kate calls that such good news and tells Joy not to worry as she and Abe will happily address all o her concerns. Kate says she’ll start working on the schedule and knows they can make adjustments to get Joy to New York more often. Kate knows Joy misses her family but adds that Body and Soul is now her family too. Kate then heads in to the Brady Pub. EJ questions Joy about what the hell that was.

Chanel decides she should head upstairs to learn her lines for tomorrow and exits. Alex then asks Johnny what the hell was that. Alex questions why Johnny would tell Chanel that he and Joy slept together. Johnny says he had to think fast and apologizes. Johnny adds that it doesn’t matter since Joy is leaving town. Alex complains that now Chanel is going to think that’s his fault. Johnny apologizes again and admits that he panicked. Johnny suggests they take a deep breath and insists everything is going to be fine if Alex doesn’t say anything. Alex reluctantly agrees even though he looks like the bad guy now thanks to Johnny. Alex decides that out of respect for Chanel and not wanting anyone else to get hurt, he won’t say anything. Johnny thanks him but Alex says not to thank him as he doesn’t deserve it because he handled this like a little bitch.

EJ questions why Joy told Kate that she’s staying and what she’s trying to pull. Joy says she realized Kate was right that she does like her job and being an actress, so she questions why she should give that up. EJ argues that she’s interfering in his son’s marriage. Joy argues that Johnny bears quite a bit of responsibility for what happened. EJ asks if she wants him to double her money. Joy says she’s sorry that Johnny is not comfortable with her being around but he’s going to have to get used to it because she’s not going anywhere. Joy then walks away.

Rafe goes home to Jada, who asks how it went with Leo. Rafe asks how she knew he was meeting with Leo. Jada jokes that she’s the police commissioner so she knows everything in this town. Jada then admits that Javi told her and that he wasn’t too happy that Rafe took the case. Rafe assures he made that clear. Jada asks about the case and if he has any leads. Rafe admits he has a hunch on who it might be. Jada asks if he cares to share. Rafe suggests Hattie Adams since she was fired shortly after taping Body and Soul and was pretty upset about it, even putting a curse on the show. Jada mentions hearing about that. Rafe thinks it’s a pretty good lead. Jada asks if he’s going to track Hattie down. Rafe responds that he is and asks if she has a problem with that.

Leo remains in the town square with his laptop and continues reading the spoilers in Lady Whistleblower’s column. Leo remarks that he can’t even be bad since they aren’t a bad writer. Javi then appears and says it’s a shame what happened after he read Lady Whistleblower’s column. Leo asks if he’s gloating now and rubbing it in. Leo guesses he deserves that after accusing him. Leo tells Javi that he really loved being a head writer as it was fun and exciting and he finally felt respected, but now it’s all gone up in smoke. Javi says he understands as he remembers how excited Leo was to watch the premiere, so it’s obvious how much the job meant to him. Javi tells Leo that for what it’s worth, he’s sorry it’s going bad for him. Leo brings up today’s episode and invites Javi to his room to watch it with him. Javi questions Leo inviting him to his room. Leo says it’s just to watch the show and suggests they could order room service. Kerry, the guy that Leo almost hooked up with a few months ago, then approaches. Javi questions them knowing each other. Leo flashes back to when they were in his hotel room together. Kerry explains that they went out once but Leo didn’t think they had a spark. Leo says it wasn’t that and asks if they know each other. Javi says they don’t know each other yet while Kerry reveals they matched on a dating app. Javi then informs Leo that he and Kerry are on a date. They agree to go to Small Bar, so Javi tells Leo to have a great night as he and Kerry walk away.

Rafe questions Jada having a problem with him tracking down Hattie. Jada brings up that Hattie is her main suspect in the poisoned cupcakes and adds that she already has an APB out on her, so she doesn’t need Black Patch getting in the way and she doesn’t want the investigation messed up. Rafe jokes that Javi warned them about him working for Black Patch throwing a wrench in to her investigations. Jada says she’s just asking that he let her take the lead on finding Hattie. Rafe questions why he should since he’s a private investigator and it’s legal for him to trail someone. Jada argues that it’s an active police investigation. Rafe argues that if they weren’t together, she wouldn’t even know about it. Jada complains that Rafe could end up spooking Hattie off while Rafe questions if she’s worried that Paulina will think he’s doing a better job than her. Jada says that’s not it and decides may the best investigator win. They shake hands as Rafe wishes her luck.

Johnny paces in the living room as EJ comes home. Johnny asks if he gave Joy her check. EJ responds that he handed it to her but Kate interrupted and talked Joy in to believing she would become the next Julia Roberts and that she would address all of her on set concerns. EJ assures that he tried to convince her but Joy wouldn’t listen and has decided to stick around. Chanel then comes back downstairs.

Alex goes over his lines at home until Joy shows up at his door. Joy says she won’t stay long and just wanted to let him know that she didn’t take the money, so she’s staying which excites Alex. Alex asks what changed her mind. Joy informs him that Kate happened to be walking by as she was taking the money and she made her realize that she really wants this job, so she won’t cave in. Alex congratulates her for standing up to EJ. Alex says there’s also something he needs to tell her. Alex then informs Joy that Chanel now believes they are sleeping together.

Chanel questions why Johnny looks like he just got cheating on an algebra test. EJ asks Chanel how things are on Body and Soul. Chanel says things are going well and she’s really connecting to her character. Chanel mentions having ten scenes with Joy tomorrow and asks Johnny to run lines with her which he agrees to. Chanel says goodnight to EJ and heads back upstairs. Johnny tells EJ that he can’t handle this. EJ says he has no choice and he’s afraid he will have to learn to live with his secret. Johnny then heads upstairs.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

Weivenip? Damn! Now everybody knows about Weivenip?

Leo. Hey, I got your message.

[dramatic music] What is so urgent that I need to be here immediately, if not sooner?

This! Lady Whistleblower has struck again.

Oh, my goodness, what a day.

Sorry. Was I interrupting something?

You’re late.

By one minute.

You’re late.

Here’s the check. Now pack your things and go.

[sighs]

I’m sorry. Do we have a problem here?

Joy doesn’t want to quit, dude. She loves her job. She admitted it to me when I tried to talk her out of leaving.

You–whoa, you did what? Damn it! Alex, this is none of your business.

[scoffs]

All right? So why don’t you just stay out of it before you ruin everything?

What the hell is going on in here?

Hello, is anyone gonna tell me what you two are fighting about?

It’s–it’s nothing.

Well, it didn’t sound like nothing.

Actually, it’s about Joy.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

You seem very protective over your phone, Javi.

Do I? Well, I was putting together my top secret Christmas shopping list. Don’t want anyone to find out what I got them before the big day. [chuckles]

Aw. Well, that’s sweet. And by the way, I look amazing in blue.

Oh, babe, you would look amazing in, like, a Winnie-the-Pooh pajama onesie. [laughter]

OK, I don’t know about all that.

All right. Note to self: no Winnie-the-Pooh attire.

You know, I’m surprised that Rafe didn’t beat me home, considering I stayed at the office late.

Actually, he did.

Oh, yeah?

Yeah, then he got a message and took off.

Hmm. Do you know what kind of message?

He said it was from Black Patch. Apparently Leo has got him at his beck and call.

[chuckles] OK, so this so-called emergency is about Lady Whistleblower?

Oh, don’t you “so-called emergency” me. What do you think I hired you to do, find DB Cooper? This, this is what I hired you to do.

And what is this?

L’imposteur has dropped another column, stuffed with exclusive “Body & Soul” spoilers. Now everyone with a smartphone, which is everyone, knows about Weivenip.

Weivenip?

Yeah.

Well, what is that, some sort of code?

[sighs] Read it from right to left, OK? [sighs]

Pine–

Weivenip, it’s Pineview spelled backwards. Pineview is the town from “Body & Soul.” And Weivenip is the tropical island that seems to be exactly like Pineview, only it’s not. See, there are all of these people who were presumed dead, murder victims, et cetera, but it turns out–

They were actually alive on the tropical island, Weivenip, the entire time?

Yes, exactly. It’s a little bit genius, isn’t it?

Wait, isn’t that the exact plot–

No, it is not the exact plot of anything. It is a completely original idea. And I know that because it came to me in a dream, right after the dream I had where my mother pushed me down this filthy water slide into the mouth of a crocodile. And then it all just sort of blended into Weivenip, the island and the gorgeous formerly dead inhabitants.

Hmm.

What? You don’t like it?

No, I was just wondering.

Wondering what?

About the plot holes. Well, I mean, how do these people even get on the island in the first place?

Ever hear of boats, planes, water skis? How does anybody get anywhere?

OK, but you said they’re alive on the island now but they were murdered? How?

I don’t know. But I do know I didn’t hire you to give me notes. I hired you to find this shady, phony-baloney Whistleblower. So if I were you, I’d get off that taut little tush of yours and find her before she spoils everything.

Joy? Why would you two be fighting about joy?

[tense music]

Chanel, there’s something you need to know. This isn’t just about Joy. It affects you too.

Me? Wait, what does it have to do with me?

OK, so about a week ago–

Alex slept with Joy.

I promise it doesn’t bite. You just feed it to an ATM, and voilà.

I know. It’s just… I really like this job.

Joy, I understand that this is a sacrifice, which is why I’m offering such a generous sum, one that you agreed to take. Besides, there are plenty of jobs out there.

[sighs]

I mean, with that kind of money, you could go back to school, get a master’s in…whatever.

Or if your heart is set on acting, why not head out to Los Angeles? I mean, think about it, Joy– a fresh start, get some of that warm California sunshine and an agent, of course.

You know, I do have an old dear friend on the West Coast, something of a acclaimed filmmaker. Tells me he’s always on the lookout for fresh talent.

I can help you, Joy. But you know what you must do.

What’s going on?

I have to say, I was pretty surprised when Leo showed up on Thanksgiving. And not only did he show up, but he hired Rafe to find out who’s been spoiling his stories.

I was even more surprised that Rafe took him up on it, even after I went through an itemized list featuring all of Leo’s worst qualities. But did he listen? No. He was too busy watching football.

Mm. [chuckles] Well, I wouldn’t take that personally. I mean, you should hear him go on and on about his fantasy team. He thinks of himself as a– a virtual coach. [laughter]

Well, he wasn’t coaching tonight.

Mm.

And let me tell you, he didn’t listen to me when I told him not to go to that damn meeting.

Well, why would you tell him that?

[dramatic music]

See? See? Weivenip. The Pineview Plunger. The Christmas Eve scandal, where this criminal mall Santa and his evil twink sidekick, who’s wearing an elf costume, try to kidnap a–

OK, OK, Leo, Leo, I get it, OK? Obviously this Lady Whistleblower is playing spoiler to your stories.

It is downright malicious, Rafe. Somebody is obviously out to get me.

And you said that none of the cast knew about any of this?

No, it hadn’t made it into the scripts yet. And before you say anything, I know that my password shouldn’t be “password.” But I have the memory of a goldfish. I don’t have another password in me. Why am I telling you this?

OK, so did anyone else have access to your computer?

Well, your cousin Javi. I caught him on it when I was coming out of the shower. I had invited him to my room. We had–had a good time, and–

I know. He told me all about it.

Wait, did he tell you about when– never mind. [chuckles]

What he told me was that you actually accused him of being Lady Whistleblower.

Yes, I did. I–I think that subconsciously I thought that Javi was too good for me. So to protect myself from the inevitable, him breaking my heart, I pushed him away. You know, every day, I have a conversation with my inner little Leo, and I remind him that good things are possible.

[holiday music] Therapy mumbo jumbo aside, I– I feel really terrible about screwing things up with Javi.

Understandable. So are there any other suspects?

[sighs] Well, Salem is nothing if not fertile ground for producing a cohort of duplicitous, underhanded– [gasps] Wait a minute. Could it be?

Could it be what?

Rafe, my handsome sleuthhound, I think I know who it is.

[dramatic music] Yes, indeed. I believe that we have our Lady–or should I say Shady– Whistleblower. [chuckles]

Well, I didn’t realize that the two of you knew each other.

Kate, what a coincidence. We were just talking about you.

Were you?

Mm.

Why is that?

Well, you are the producer of “Body & Soul,” aren’t you?

That, I am.

Well, then I think you ought to know that Joy here has decided to quit the show.

Quit?

Mm.

Really?

Mm-hmm.

Why is that, Joy?

I’m not really sure it’s for me.

Hmm. What isn’t for you?

The pace. We don’t really get any time to rehearse, which kind of feeds into my anxiety.

Mm.

And honestly, I’m– I’m really missing New York.

Well, of course you are. Of course you are. I mean, New York is a fabulous city. Believe me, I am not unsympathetic. But I can’t allow you to quit. You see, you have an ironclad contract. And you wouldn’t want to be in breach of that, would you?

– So Alex is sleeping with Joy? Is that true?

Yeah, it’s true. He–he just told me.

He did?

Hmm.

But why would he tell you that?

Look, I don’t know what–

You know, because I–I– I got the sense that something was going on between them at rehearsal. And so Alex, he just dropped by to go over some– some script edits, and I asked him about it.

Mm-hmm.

And he admitted that they were…you know.

OK. But why were you guys fighting about it?

I was just concerned that, you know, it might not be a good idea. Isn’t that right, Alex?

So why don’t you want Rafe to go to that meeting with Leo?

Maybe because Leo is a complete and total jerk.

Mm.

What? He accused me of being Lady Whistleblower based off of some pretty sketchy circumstantial evidence and his own toxic relationship with reality. And that was after we had a pretty hot first date. Not that that matters. And after he turned on me, I realized that I was better off without someone like him in my life. And I don’t want a good, honest man like my cousin Rafael to be sucked into the vortex that is Leo Stark.

Javi, I think it’s really sweet of you that you want to protect your cousin Rafe. But you do realize that they’re not gonna sleep together, right? I mean, he is only helping him find the person who took over this whole Lady Whistleblower column. So why don’t you want him to help him with the case?

[dramatic music]

So you think that Kate is the Lady Whistleblower.

Yep, I do. Our very own Kate Roberts. Or is it Kate Brady? I should pay attention to the credits.

But she’s executive producer of your show.

I know that. But I pitch her the stories. She knows the stories.

But why would she want to sabotage her own show?

[gasps] Actually, I think it’s both of them, Kate and Abe, which, believe it or not, makes even more sense because they are the producers, plural.

Huh?

Haven’t you ever seen “The Producers”?

The Mel Brooks movie with Gene Wilder?

And Zero Mostel. Yeah, that’s the movie version. So no, I’m talking about the Broadway musical starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. It won 2 Tony Awards. I should know this because I was hired at that event to look after Patti LuPone’s Boston terrier.

Right. OK. So the musical.

Yeah, OK, do you remember the plot of “The Producers”? In a nutshell, Bialystock and Bloom try and make their own show a flop so they can get the insurance money and make out like bandits. That must be exactly what Kate and Abe are trying to do with “Body & Soul.” They’re worried that the show is gonna tank, and this is how they’re gonna rake it in. Insurance fraud, just like Bialystock and Bloom. Only in the case of Abe and Kate, it is not going to be a barrel of laughs.

OK.

Yeah, I–I don’t buy it. Sorry.

Well, then you come up with something. You’re the private investigator. Don’t you have any ideas?

Yeah, as a matter of fact, I do.

Kate, I am well aware that Joy has a contract.

Mm. And did you know, EJ, that contracts are legally binding?

I do, which is why she hired me to extricate her from this ill-suited accord. You see, Joy is a young actress in possession of not only great talent but a keen intuition of what’s best for her. So I told her, please do not waste your hard-earned money on me. I’m more than happy to take this case pro bono. So please put that check away.

I’m sure we can work this out for everyone’s benefit.

Oh, you think so?

Well, knowing how deeply unhappy Joy has become, I can’t imagine you holding her to some draconian contract. And I’m sure you know that you won’t get the best out of an actor who already has their foot out the door.

Well, of course not. And I would never want anyone working for me against their will. But you are our Regan, Joy. Everyone loves you in the role.

Oh, surely you can love someone else in that role. I mean, can’t you simply recast? I’m told that’s a fairly common practice.

Mm, mm-hmm. We could recast. I don’t want to. You see, Joy, you have a very special gift. You do, and if you put your mind to it, I think you’re going to be a big star.

Joy, I promise you, whatever your concerns are, that Abe and I will work with you to address them. And all I ask of you is to reconsider.

Don’t break your contract.

So you and Johnny are practically having this knock-down, drag-out fight because you’re having a fling with Joy?

It’s true. Johnny wasn’t happy when I told him that I slept with Joy.

Mm-hmm. So that’s what you meant when you said Alex is going to ruin everything?

Yeah, well, like I said, I was just concerned, you know, after the whole Alex and Stephanie fiasco that this would only cause more problems.

Yeah. And I was just telling Johnny that what Joy and I do is our business. After all, it’s not like we’re married. [chuckles] We’re not hurting anybody.

That’s not exactly true.

Well, why are you so–

Worried about Rafe taking Leo’s case? I don’t know. Maybe it’s because I’ve opened emails from down-on-their-luck shipping heiresses that I trust more than that guy. And plus, in this day and age, who knows if Rafe will ever figure out who Lady Whistleblower is. And for all we know, maybe… it’s someone in a penthouse in Kuala Lumpur. [laughter]

OK, if that’s true, then trust me, Rafe would be there ready to bust down the door of that mansion.

I hope so, ’cause Leo seems adamant to take someone down for this. And who knows? If Rafe doesn’t find the culprit of who Lady Whistleblower is…

Mm.

I wouldn’t put it past Leo to blame Rafe himself.

You know, I doubt that. Not that I’m defending Leo, but I mean, this person is messing with his livelihood. And although it is not, you know, a police matter, if I were Leo, I’d want it solved too. [phone beeps]

[dramatic music]

Oh, I have to go. But there are enchiladas in the fridge if you want to polish those off. I’ll see you later. [speaking Spanish]

Well, that was abrupt.

Hmm.

All right, Columbo, let’s hear it. Who’s your suspect?

I don’t want to say.

What? Why not?

Well, because I don’t want to accuse anyone unless I have concrete evidence.

You’re not accusing anyone. You’re just telling me.

Eh, a distinction without a difference.

Huh? A what without a what?

Meaning if I tell you who I think it is, you’re going to accuse them. Am I wrong?

I am not… making any promises. But wait, I’m the client here. I’m paying you.

Yes, exactly. All the more reason why I want to stay tight-lipped about this. Now, if you actually want to find out who this is, then we cannot let them know that we are investigating them, right? If you go around and you start making false accusations, word is gonna get out. Yeah, and in the case of Javi, maybe I should say more false accusations.

Listen, just give me some time, OK? If I come up with something concrete, I’ll let you know.

Can you work fast? I don’t know how many more Weivenips I have in me.

Yeah, you should probably talk to your doctor about that.

Oh, Rafe, wait.

Do you think that you might be willing to put in a good word for me with your cousin? In the short amount of time that we’ve worked together, you could tell that I’m a decent guy, right? Who would be an even more decent guy had I not had a mother who one year for Halloween made me dress up as a sewer rat because she said that’s what I reminded her of.

I will put in a good word for you, OK? But just be warned. Once Javi makes up his mind about something, he isn’t prone to change it. And seems like he’s made up his mind.

I really messed that up, didn’t I?

Hmm.

So who do you think is getting hurt by Joy and I sleeping together?

Well, isn’t it obvious? Joy. I mean, there’s clearly a power imbalance in your relationship.

A power imbalance?

Yeah.

Mm.

I mean, it’s not the same as the actor on the show and the show’s publicist sleeping together. But I mean, Joy, she’s new in town, and she’s finding her way. She’s vulnerable.

Mm.

And Johnny and I promised to look out for her.

Is that so?

Yeah.

Oh.

Yeah. And on top of that, you’re still not over the whole Stephanie thing.

Mm.

And I really just– I don’t want Joy to get hurt.

Mm, well, I don’t want you to worry at all, Chanel, ’cause I don’t want anybody to get hurt either.

My client will not be pressured into anything. She’s made her decision, one she feels, though difficult in the moment, is best for her long-term.

Hmm. Why don’t you just skip the lawyerly sermons and let Joy speak for herself?

Actually, Kate’s right. I want to stay.

You want to–

To stay, yes.

Ah, that is such good news. It really is. And I don’t want you to worry, all right? Abe and I are going to happily address all of your concerns. As a matter of fact, I’m gonna make a note to myself to have him start working on the schedule, because I know that we can make some adjustments to get you into New York more often. I know that you miss your family. But I also want you to remember that “Body & Soul” is now your family too.

[chuckles]

Mm.

What the hell was that?

OK, well, I should head upstairs so that I can learn all my lines for tomorrow.

OK.

All right, I will see you later.

OK.

Mwah. And goodbye, Alex.

[sighs]

What the hell was that?

[dramatic music]

Why? Why would you tell Chanel that Joy and I slept together when we both know this girl’s–

I had to think fast, OK? I’m sorry. But, Alex, just– it’s gonna be fine, OK? It doesn’t even matter. Joy’s leaving town.

I know she’s leaving town. And now Chanel’s gonna think it’s my fault. Did that ever occur to you in your little pea brain?

I said I’m sorry, OK? I just–I–I panicked. I said the first thing that came to me. Let’s just–can we please just take a deep breath, OK? Everything is going to be fine… if you don’t say anything. How’d that old maxim go? Loose lips sink ships.

[scoffs] Fine. Even though now I look like the bad guy, thanks to you. But out of the interest for your wife, Chanel, I don’t want to upset her any more. I don’t want to cause any more problems for anybody else. So I won’t say anything.

[sighs] Look, thank you, OK? Thank you. I’m grateful.

Don’t thank me. You don’t deserve it. You don’t deserve it, because you handled this like a little bitch. Little bitch.

Mm.

Why did you tell Kate you’re staying, Joy? What are you trying to pull?

I just–

Just what?

I realized Kate was right. I do like my job. I like being an actress. Why should I give that up?

Why should– because you’re interfering in my son’s marriage, that’s why.

Look, last time I checked, there were two of us in the hotel room that night. I would say your son bears quite a bit of responsibility for what happened.

[sighs]

[sighs]

What do you want, Joy? Hmm? You want me to double that, add an extra zero?

No, I don’t. Look, I’m sorry that Johnny’s not comfortable with me being around, but he’s gonna have to get used to it…

‘Cause I’m not going anywhere.

Hey. [sniffs] Something smells good.

Well, I just had some leftover enchiladas.

Ooh.

Yeah. So…how did it go with Leo?

How did you know I was meeting with Leo?

I’m the police commissioner. I know everything that happens in this town.

Hmm.

OK, Javi told me.

Ah.

And he wasn’t too happy that you took the case.

Oh, yes. He made that abundantly clear, believe me.

Mm. So what’s the takeaway? Any leads on who this new Whistleblower is?

Yeah, I’ve got a hunch who it might be.

A hunch, huh?

Mm-hmm.

Care to share?

Hattie Adams.

What? Hattie Adams?

Yeah, she was fired shortly after she started taping at “Body & Soul,” and she was pretty upset about it. Apparently she put a curse on the show.

Yeah, you know, I heard about that.

Mm-hmm. Anyway, I think it’s a pretty good lead.

Hmm. So what are you gonna do, track her down?

Yeah, I am.

You have a problem with that?

Wait a minute. Wait a minute. She even knows that Lorna’s the one who reveals the truth, under the moonlight, with a single tear rolling down her cheek? [sighs] What else does this charlatan, this trickster–

[holiday music] Worst part is, I can’t even be mad. She’s not a bad writer. Excellent use of syntax, incredible vocabulary.

It’s a shame what happened to Weivenip.

How do you know about Weivenip?

Oh, ’cause I read it on Lady Whistleblower’s column.

[sighs]

And you’re right, she does have an impressive vocabulary.

So you’re gloating now? Rubbing it in? I guess I deserve that after accusing you of–

Betrayal? Of being a duplicitous, two-timing jerk?

Look, I know I don’t deserve your pity. Who wants to be pitied, anyway? Actually, sometimes it is comforting. It’s sort of like a tepid but nonetheless relaxing bubble bath.

Anyway, my point is, I really loved being a head writer. It was fun and exciting. And I feel like for the first time in my life, I was being respected. And now, poof, it’s just all gone up in smoke.

I understand.

You do?

[chuckles] I remember how excited you were to watch the premiere. And it’s obvious how much this job meant to you. And for what it’s worth, I’m sorry that it’s getting so messed up.

Thank you.

So not to brag– OK, maybe a little bit to brag– but I thought today’s episode was so good. There was this scene I wrote where– actually, you know what? I don’t want to ruin it. So I was wondering– and feel free to say no…

But would you be interested in coming up to my room and watching it with me?

So you’re inviting me up to your room?

Just to watch the show. We could order some room service. They have these mozzarella sticks from that pizza place around the corner that are– I was gonna say so good, but they’re not.

[chuckles]

It’ll be my treat, of course.

[dramatic music]

[sighs]

Kerry?

Leo, hey.

Wait, you two know each other?

You are my first groupie.

[chuckles]

And this is happening, isn’t it?

Mm. When I’m attracted to someone, I don’t like to waste time. I’m betting you feel the same way.

Yeah. We went out once. Only Leo thought we didn’t have a– what did you call it, a– oh, that’s right, a spark.

No, it wasn’t that. It was just–

So are you ready?

Wait, you two know each other?

Oh, we don’t. Not yet, at least.

You know, he swiped right on me, I swiped right on him, et cetera, et cetera.

Oh, you met on a dating app?

Something wrong with that?

No, not at all.

So this is–this is–

A–a date, yeah.

So where to? Small Bar? I hear they make great caipirinhas.

Let’s go. Have a great evening, Leo.

Well, do you have a problem with me searching for Hattie?

Actually, yes, I do…

Mm.

Because Hattie happens to be the main suspect in this Cupcake-gate. And besides, I already have an APB out on her, so…

Meaning?

Meaning I don’t need Black Patch getting in the way. And I don’t want this investigation to mess up with you underfoot.

[chuckles

I mean, no offense.

Mm.

What? What are you thinking?

Oh, just, Javi warned us about this.

About what?

About me going to work for Black Patch, how it could throw a wrench into your investigation.

OK, come on. No one’s throwing a wrench into anything, OK? [chuckles] Look, all I’m asking is that you just let me take the lead on finding Hattie.

What? What is that look about? What are you thinking?

Why should I? I mean, seriously, why should– I have a PI’s license. It’s totally legal for me to trail someone.

I mean, this is–this is an active police investigation, which means–

Which means nothing, nothing. OK, listen, if you and I weren’t together, you wouldn’t even know about this.

OK, I have a feeling I would find out about Hattie as soon as you spooked her to take off.

Oh, spooked her? How am I gonna spook her? I just want to find out if she’s the new Lady Whistleblower or not.

And then if she finds out you’re onto her about that, then she’s gonna stop and take a moment and think, you know what, maybe they’re onto me about the cupcakes too.

Is that it?

Yeah, that’s it.

Really, is it?

Yeah, that’s it.

Or–or are you worried that Mayor Price is gonna think that I’m doing a better job on this case than you are?

No. But you know what?

May the best investigator win.

Yeah, good luck.

Extra luck.

[chortles]

[sighs] Did you give Joy her check? What? Why not?

Well, I did. I handed it to her. But right after she took it, Kate interrupted and then somehow talked her into believing that she was going to become the next Julia Roberts and that she would address all of Joy’s on-set concerns.

You’re kidding me.

I’m afraid I’m not. Believe me, son, I tried to convince her, but Joy just wouldn’t listen. She’s decided to stick around.

Johnny?

No, no, you listen to me, buddy boy. Who I’m sleeping with and who I’m not sleeping with is none of your damn business. Furthermore, what happened between Haley and me all those years ago is ancient history, so– [knock at door] Joy.

Alex, hi. Can I come in?

Sure, yeah.

OK.

What’s going on? Sorry, I’m a little bit busy. I was trying to run all these lines.

I’m not gonna stay long. I just–I wanted to let you know. [chuckles]

Let me know what?

I didn’t take the money. I’m staying.

Yes! Ye–really? What–what changed your mind?

Kate did, actually.

Kate?

Yeah, no, she just happened to be walking by when Johnny’s father was handing me the check. To be honest, I was gonna take it, and I was gonna be on the next flight out to JFK. But Kate made me realize I really want this job. And I’m not gonna cave in about it.

Hey, good for you. Seriously, I’m glad to hear it, you standing up to EJ. I know he can be… intimidating.

Yeah, no kidding. [chuckles]

[chuckles] Cheers.

Thank you.

There’s also something I need to tell you.

Hmm?

Chanel is now of the belief that you and I are sleeping together. Mm.

Hey, babe. What’s up?

Why do you look like you just got caught cheating on an algebra test?

I–I do? Well, we were just–

Chanel, I don’t think I’ve asked you. How are things on “Body & Soul”?

Oh, they’re going well. I’m really connecting to my character. Speaking of which, I have, like, ten scenes with Regan tomorrow. So I wanted to see if you would run lines with me, Johnny. Down to play a home-wrecker?

Ha. Yeah. Yeah, sure. I’ll be right up.

All right, great. Good night, EJ.

Good night.

[sighs] Damn it. I–I–I can’t handle this.

Hey. No choice, son. I’m afraid you’re going to have to learn to live with this secret.

You got this.

Recap written by Suzanne

Josslyn, Trina, Dex, and Gio gathered at Rice Plaza to select a Christmas tree. During the outing, Dex encountered Cyrus and confronted him about being at General Hospital on Halloween, suspecting a connection to Lulu. Cyrus denied any involvement, claiming he was there to deliver candy to the children’s wing. Later, a flashback revealed that Cyrus had entered Sam’s hospital room on Halloween and injected her IV with digitalis, confirming his role in her death.

Meanwhile, Lucky and Elizabeth reconnected while choosing a Christmas tree. They reminisced about their past, with Lucky helping Elizabeth decorate her home and serenading her with a song he had written during their youth. This nostalgic interaction highlighted their enduring bond and hinted at a possible rekindling of their relationship.

Days Nitpicks & Flubs For The Week Of December 2, 2024

Nitpicks & Flubs

by Michele & Cheryl

Jennifer

Monday

Jennifer cried without any tears.

How did Liz know where to find Marlena? The last time she was in Salem Marlena was staying in the house with Roman. How did she know to find her at the townhouse?

Jennifer couldn’t imagine waking up without the person you love sleeping next to her. Did she forget there was a time when she thought Jack was dead? He also abandoned the family, so she spent plenty of time with her bed empty.

Who told Liz about what happened to Doug? Liz hasn’t been in town since 1986, so who would have called her to tell her about Doug?

Liz wore a fur coat, but she didn’t have it closed. It couldn’t be that cold in Salem. Maggie and Marie were sitting outside at the town square as if it were spring, so it wasn’t that cold there.

Tuesday

Why didn’t Marie visit Julie right away? She was at the town square when she came back for Julie.

Ciara’s dress was inappropriate for her grandfather’s funeral.

Belle was wearing a jacket when she and Marlena walked through the town square, but it was off when she was shown at the church.

Why was Marlena in the front row at Doug’s funeral, but most of Julie’s family was sitting in the back?

Why didn’t Sarah go to Doug’s service? She’s walking now so she should have been able to go to the service.

Wednesday

Would anyone miss their family’s funeral because they were too sick to go? Claire was conveniently sick and couldn’t go to Doug’s funeral. She should have been there to say goodbye.

Why did Leo assume that Steven was in town for Doug’s funeral when he didn’t know he was related to Julie? Steven could have been in town for any reason.

Ciara and Jennifer didn’t know Steven, but they were sure he wouldn’t steal Alice’s diamonds.

How did Doug III know his way around Salem? He just got out of jail, but he knew how to get to St. Luke’s.

Thursday

Hope didn’t have flowers when she showed up at the Horton house but had them when she went to the cemetery.

Ciara had to text Shawn to let him know that Hope was in town. Hope could have reached out to him.

Jennifer wanted to give Hope a ride from the cemetery. How did Hope get there when she arrived alone? What was supposed to happen to the car Hope drove?

Friday

Would it hurt Alex to put a shirt on occasionally? He always answers his door without a shirt on.

What made Cat think that Chad would care about her mother and not what happened to Abby’s remains?

Marie (to Maggie): Oh, but I’d count myself lucky if I never laid eyes on Liz Chandler again.
Liz: Well, then I guess today’s not your lucky day, huh?

Liz: And I gather you’re not that delighted to see me, Marie.
Marie: You gather correctly especially not here in this town square named after my parents.
Liz: Well, for the record, I thought the world of your parents. It was you I couldn’t stand.

Liz: Lest you think I hold a grudge over what happened with Neil—how-how absurd would that be after all these years?
Marie: So I don’t have to look forward to your shooting me in another jealous rage?

Leo (to Steven): Forgive me for eavesdropping on your private conversation with a plaque, but I must confess, I used to make my living overhearing things I wasn’t meant to hear and then writing about them in my very popular gossip column. But rest assured, those days are behind me.

Lucas (to Steven): Aunt Marie told us about your history with diamonds and now you’re here with this guy? Give me a break.
Leo: This guy? The name is Leo.
Lucas: Is he helping you? Is he helping you fence it? Is that what he’s doing?
Steven: I have no idea what you’re talking about.
Lucas: Drop the innocent act. You know your pal here? Your pal, your pal stole your, your cousin Abigal’s jewelry and then he tried to get her murderer to sell it for him.
Leo: That was a coincidence. I had nothing to do with Abigail’s murder, and I didn’t even know the two of you were related. My God, is everyone in this town cousins?
Leo (to Ciara and Lucas about accusing Steven of stealing Alice’s necklace): As if the two of you have any business judging anybody.
Ciara” And what is that supposed to mean?
Leo: You’re kidding, right? You (Lucas) kidnapped your own wife. You (Ciara) are married to a convicted serial killer. So, if I were you, I would consider putting that glass house on the market before you throw any stones.

Days Opinions For The Week Of December 2, 2024

Opinion Article

by Michele & Cheryl

Doug and Julie

This was a sad week for the Hortons as well as the fans of the show. As you know, Bill Hayes (Doug) died at the end of last year. The show has finally written his death into the show. Jack tried to wake Doug up last week, and he found out that he passed away. It rocked everyone’s world when they found out the news. The audience finally get the chance to see the cast react to what happened. We had to wait a long time to see the Hortons’ reactions to the news. The show focused on Doug’s passing for most of the week. We will talk about our thoughts about the tribute to the actor and the character.

The writers decided to bring people back for Doug’s funeral. Liz (Gloria Loring). Marie (Maree Cheatham), and Steven (Stephen Schnetzer) back to the show. They are characters who haven’t been on the show since the 80s. We weren’t watching the show when they were front and center so it was strange to see new people. It was nice to see them again. We give the writers a thumbs up for including some history for those of us who didn’t watch the show during that time. Liz and Marie had a soapy history because of an affair. Liz slept with Marie’s husband back in the day. We would have loved to see that story unfold. Checking YouTube would be a great idea to find out the history between the characters. They still have heat between them, and they exploded on each other during the service. It may not have been the right time, but it was a break from the grief. We do have a nitpick about what happened between them. For some reason, Maggie expected them to move on from what happened between them. She was with Neil too, so why weren’t they mad at her? She’s supposed to be family to Marie, but she was with Neil too. If we’re mistaken about that, we are sorry. We weren’t watching the show at the time so we could be wrong about that.

As we mentioned in the previous paragraph, Steven was brought back to the show. He’s Julie’s brother. We have never seen him on the show. We didn’t know that Julie had a brother. He came back to help Julie. Who told him about Doug? Why would anyone call him when he hasn’t been in touch with Julie? He became involved in a mystery. The Hortons accused him of stealing Alice’s necklace from the time capsule. He felt like he had a right to the necklace because it belonged to his grandmother. It’s strange that he felt like that when most of the people at the Horton house were related to Alice. We don’t know if Steven is going to stay in Salem now that the funeral is done. If he doesn’t stay, it was good to see the actor on a soap opera again. If you ever watched Another World, it would be a treat to get a chance to see him on TV again.

Jack, the right Jennifer (Melissa Reeves), Shawn, Belle and Hope were back too. They have been on the show, and it was great to see them back. It has been a long time since Melissa Reeves has been on the show, and it was a breath of fresh air to see her playing Jennifer again. She was the actress who worked with Bill Hayes so it made sense to have her come back to say goodbye to his character. Reeves has chemistry with Matthew Ashford so she is the one who should be back any time they write Jennifer back into the show. It felt like no time went by when she returned to the show. We know that she won’t be back when the character returns, but it was amazing to see her back on screen. Hope is one of our favorite female characters on the show. She’s one half of our favorite supercouple (Bo/Hope). We were cheering when we heard the news that she was returning to say goodbye to Doug. There’s no way that she would have missed seeing Doug when she was his daughter. We are grateful the writers decided to bring her back instead of having the character be in another room. It was great to see her back on the show. She and Peter Reckell (Bo) are truly missed as part of the show. We are looking forward to them being back on the show next year. To get back to Hope, she was suspicious of the guy who claimed to be Doug’s grandson. She asked the right questions about him. The man did show up out of the blue claiming to be Doug’s grandson. We already went through a con job with the fake Abby. It looks like we’re dealing with it again. Hope wanted to know if someone talked to Charles (her half-brother through IVF) to find out if he had a kid named Doug. It’s hard to believe she was the only one who thought to call him. Shawn and Belle are back on the show too. They have been missed too. The show needs more characters their age on the show. They are breaking up and dealing with the aftermath of that. The writers are keeping them for a long-term storyline.

Did anyone else feel the tears falling when Julie spoke about Doug? It had to be hard for the actress to get through the scenes when she was married to Doug in real life. He was more than just a TV husband. Bill Hayes was her world. Susan Seaforth-Hayes did an amazing job with the material. She nailed all the emotions a grieving widow should have during her time of grief. The actress made us feel her pain. We couldn’t stop crying watching her pour her heart out to the man she loved for the majority of her life. The writers gave her a chance to express how she felt about losing the love of her life.

We’re not sure how we feel about the stranger who approached Julie. He introduced himself as Doug’s grandson. We needed the writers to utilize the history of the show to explain the connection. The storyline needed exposition because we didn’t think Doug had a son. Jennifer and Hope suddenly remembered that Doug had a child through IVF. It’s something that’s never been discussed while we were watching the show. The reveal happened after he passed away. It’s good that Doug’s death allowed another story to develop, but the story has holes in it. How did Doug III know to find the Hortons? Where has he been all this time? What happened to his father? Did he know Doug? Who told him that Doug died? We could probably come up with more questions, but we’ll stop there.

We know that we talked about the funeral a lot in this article, but it was the focus of the week. It’s time to shift gears. EJ decided to pay Joy to leave town so Johnny wouldn’t have to live with the guilt of seeing his mistress around town. For some reason, Johnny didn’t want him to pay for her to leave town. Did he enjoy her being there? Why would he want her to stay in town? He might enjoy the attention he received from her. Joy agreed to leave town. She told Alex that she was leaving, and he got upset. Alex wasn’t involved in the situation, so why would he care if she left town? Did he like the idea of Johnny squirming whenever Joy was around? Alex went to Johnny, and they got into an argument about it. Chanel walked in and heard the end of the argument. We weren’t surprised that she didn’t hear the important parts of the argument. It seems like the writers want to dumb Chanel down for this storyline to work. We think she may know what happened between Johnny and Joy and that’s why she makes so many comments about him being faithful. Is it possible that she’s giving him the rope to hang himself with it? Chanel goes out of her way to mention that he didn’t cheat on her. It feels like she’s waiting for him to confess to what he did. If he wanted to do that, he should have talked to her about it. She still would have been mad about what he did, but the extra lies wouldn’t have been attached to it.

Daytime Soap Opera Short Recaps

Days of Our Lives logo

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Chad and Cat arrived in Vancouver and hoped that Clyde believed they were the couple Clyde expected across the street. Cat was surprised Chad got a room for them to share. He told her that he didn’t trust her and refused to let her out of his sight. Gabi and JJ showed up at an upscale hotel as the DiMeras. The bellhop gave JJ a letter. JJ checked the room for bugs while Gabi read the letter. Clyde would send instructions on what they had to do next. Paulina, Chanel and Lani were hanging out together. Lani wished she could spend more time with Chanel and Johnny. She promised to do that when she and Eli came back. Paulina urged Chanel to tell Lani how Johnny’s been acting. With regret in her voice, Chanel admitted that Johnny accused her of cheating on him with Alex. Lani revealed that she did the same thing to JJ. EJ found Johnny working on a scene for Chanel and Joy to do. He informed his son that he didn’t have to work so hard on the scene because he convinced Joy to leave Salem. EJ didn’t want him to feel guilty every time he saw Joy in town. With anger in his voice, Johnny wanted him to undo what he did. EJ felt like it was for the best. Joy went to see Alex and told him that she was quitting the show. Alex put it together and thought she should reconsider leaving town. He thought Kate and Abe would sue her for breach of contract. Joy told him that EJ was taking care of that for her. Alex said that the career she worked on would be over, but Joy told him it was a done deal. All she had to do was meet EJ and get the check from him. She wanted Alex to stay out of it.

Cat became angry at Chad for caring more about Abby’s remains than whether her mother was still alive. He put her on notice about talking about Abby. She was resentful about having to take his orders and wanted her old life back. He didn’t have the energy to deal with her anymore. Chad called Jennifer while she left to take a shower. JJ received a call from Jack and found out that Doug died. He broke the news to Gabi, and she was shocked by it. They talked about how much Doug meant to them. Lani revealed to Paulina and Chanel that she slept with Eli when she thought JJ cheated with Gabi. Chanel mentioned that she couldn’t forgive Allie for cheating on her, and she was glad that Johnny didn’t do the same thing. She couldn’t live with it if he cheated on her. EJ was convinced that getting rid of Joy was the best decision. Johnny informed him that someone else knew about what happened. He told him that Alex knew about them. EJ thought Alex would use the information to get the upper hand. Johnny didn’t think he would do that. Joy met with EJ, and he gave her the check. He wanted her to pack her things and leave town. Alex arrived at the DiMera mansion to confront Johnny about what happened with Joy. Johnny told him that it wasn’t any of his business. He warned him to stay out of it before he messed everything up. Chanel arrived and wanted to know what was going on between them.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[dramatic music]

Well, it’s not exactly the Ritz.

[chuckles] Compared to the apartment where you found me in Poplar Bluff, it’s the Ritz. [sighs]

Glad to see the snow’s finally let up. [sighs] I didn’t think we were gonna be able to land.

We should have expected weather delays, coming to Vancouver in December.

Do you think we missed any messages from Clyde while we were stuck in the air?

No, I’m–I’m sure he knows we got held up. I’m sure he’s tracking our every move, just like we’re watching him. I just hope he believes that we’re the Mr. and Mrs. Chad DiMera that checked in across the street.

Mr. and Mrs. DiMera, I hope the room is OK for you.

It is absolutely perfect. Isn’t it, Chad?

Oh, darling, your nails look fancier than a Sweet Bits cake.

Mama, how do you see them?

I took a peek.

[soft music]

Oh! Ooh, they do! See, now I’m over here peeking. So cute. Sis, if you ever decide to go into a side business–

No, thank you. Two jobs is plenty for me.

Last week, the twins gave me a manicure. And as you can imagine, the polish landed everywhere except my nails. [laughter]

Well, this is at least an improvement from that, right?

Oh, yeah.

Ooh, yes. Speaking of those twins, now, should I go and check on them? They’ve been napping for a while now.

Mama, let the babies lie, OK? You’re the one who told me that.

Oh, yeah, you’re right. Oh, you know, I think we’ve had these on long enough, right?

Yeah, for sure.

Oh. Ooh. Ah. Whew! I just–I just wanted to catch a glimpse of those sweet babies’ faces, you know? I want to look at those angels as long as possible before you go back to D.C.

Oh, I know. I’m so happy that we got to spend this time together.

Same. Really am. But, you know, I wanted to spend time with Johnny too. Eli and I were hoping that we could do, like, a double date. I guess that will just have to happen next time around.

That’s probably for the best.

Wait. What?

Nothing.

Go on. Go on, Chanel. Tell your sister all about what a jackass your husband has been.

[chuckles] Burning the midnight oil, I see.

Yeah. Blocking some big confrontation tomorrow between Chanel and Joy’s characters.

Oh, well, I wouldn’t work too hard on that if I were you.

[dramatic music]

Why not?

Well, because Joy’s role will have to be recast, unfortunately. She won’t be available to tape those scenes.

[knock at door]

Joy.

Sorry. I should have called.

No, it’s no problem. You want to run some lines?

No. [sighs] I– I–I came to say goodbye.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

[dramatic music]

Goodbye? What do you mean?

I’m going back to New York.

What about the show?

I’m quitting, Alex. I’m telling Abe and Kate first thing in the morning.

What? You just barely started. How can you quit?

This acting thing, I don’t know if it’s for me. I mean, it was my mom’s dream, you know, not mine.

Joy, everybody loves you. You’re so talented. What do you mean? Where is this coming from?

I think it would be best for everyone.

You mean best for Johnny ’cause you don’t want Chanel to find out that you hooked up with her husband.

[sighs]

What are you talking about? Why–why wouldn’t Joy be available? Why would we have to recast her role?

When Joy was here for Thanksgiving, I made her a proposition.

What kind of proposition?

I offered her a very generous enticement to leave “Body & Soul” and Salem for good.

[tense music]

[sighs] Chad, what if Clyde already suspects us? What if he–he knows that we’re using JJ and Gabi as decoys?

Well, if he knew that, we’d already be dead.

What are you doing?

I’m unpacking. What does it look like?

Oh.

I just assumed that this room was gonna be mine.

It is. It’s mine too.

[chuckles] But– but there’s only one–

Yeah, I don’t trust you, Cat, so I’m not letting you out of my sight.

So are you two here on business or pleasure?

Business.

Pleasure.

[laughs]

Both, actually. Figured we might as well make the best of a business trip.

Oh. Well, enjoy your time with us.

And here you are.

Mr. DiMera, someone left this at the front desk for you.

Thank you.

Well? [sighs]

It’s from Clyde.

I thought I could work with Johnny and Chanel without too much drama, but Chanel, she keeps inviting me over and acting like I’m her best friend. It’s too much.

No, I get that. But I mean, why should you be the one that has to quit? You’re not the one who’s married. You certainly didn’t know that Johnny was gonna end up being your director. What about your contract? I signed, like, a two-year deal. Didn’t you?

I’m gonna break the contract.

Joy, you know Kate and Abe could sue you for, like, a ton of money.

I’m not worried about that.

You’re not worried about that? You got that kind of cash?

I have somebody taking care of it for me. It’s not gonna be a problem.

You got somebody? Don’t tell me Johnny’s pressuring you to leave town.

No, it’s not Johnny.

OK.

It’s his father.

[dramatic music]

[clears throat]

You did what?

[clears throat] I offered to buy out Joy’s contract in addition to giving her a very generous sum to leave town entirely.

Why–why– why would you do that?

[chuckles] Why do you think? You yourself said it was pure torture when Chanel invited Joy to dinner. Then I saw you suffering through the premiere of “Body & Soul”– an achievement you should have reveled in– sandwiched between the two of them, looking like you’d rather have root canal. And then there was Thanksgiving. And not to make this about me, but it has been a very difficult year, and all I wanted was a fresh start, a nice dinner with my family. And Joy Wesley came along to ruin the entire meal for everyone.

Yeah, but she didn’t mean to.

I know that. I confronted her about accepting the invitation, and she said that Chanel wouldn’t take no for an answer.

Yeah, well, Chanel just wants her to feel at home in Salem.

Right. I get that. Because she is blissfully oblivious to the dalliance dear Ms. Wesley had with her husband. However… because you are essentially an honest person and are currently tormented with guilt, if Joy keeps showing up on our doorstep, I know that the pressure on you to tell Chanel the truth will become insurmountable, so I took care of the problem for you.

You know, I–I–I actually don’t believe this.

You’ll thank me eventually.

No, I won’t thank you, Dad. Look, you don’t get to just make decisions for me, OK? You don’t fix my problems. I don’t need that. It’s none of your business! So I want you to call Joy and I want you to undo this, OK?

Can you believe Johnny mistook Stephanie Johnson for your sister?

What?

You know, Mama, when we last discussed this, you said, “Chanel, as long as you’re happy, that’s all I care about.”

Oh, which is true.

No, it is obviously not, because otherwise, you wouldn’t be bad-mouthing my husband to my sister.

Oh.

And you said you were gonna let go of your anger towards Johnny.

Fine. Fine. I’m–I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’ll just shut up now.

Well, even though I wish Mama hadn’t brought it up, Johnny never actually saw who Alex was with. Seth Burns was the one who told him that– You know what? No. Never mind, OK? Johnny feels terrible about what happened, as Mama knows, and I am doing my best to forgive and forget so we can move forward.

Well, I hope so. You know, I can kind of see things from Johnny’s perspective.

Before you both came to Salem, I kind of made the same mistake with JJ Deveraux.

What does it say?

Read it. I need to make sure there aren’t listening devices or anything planted in here.

Do you think he would have access to do that?

With Weston, you never know.

“If you are reading this, “it means you’ve made it to Vancouver. “Welcome. “If you want to know where Abigail’s remains reside, “you’ll hand Ms. Greene over to me “with no tricks or new demands. “I’ll be in touch tomorrow morning with instructions for the exchange.” Great. More waiting. God, I’m a nervous wreck. [sighs]

Yeah, I–I think we all are, but I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you doing this for Abigail.

I’m not just doing this for Abigail. I’m doing this for me too. I need to make sure that Clyde Weston never hurts anyone I care about ever again.

Clyde Weston has a bounty on my head. I’m not leaving this room whether you have your eye on me or not.

Well, if you go rogue, it could blow everything up.

I wouldn’t do that, Chad. My mother’s life is on the line.

You know, just so we’re clear, in case you forgot, I’m gonna do my best to help you find your mother, but my top priority is gonna be finding my wife and bringing her remains home.

Great, thank you, I appreciate you being up-front with me about that. I’m happy to know that your–your dead wife trumps my hopefully still alive mother. I’m grateful to know where your priorities stand.

[scoffs]

Listen to me.

Chad–

Do not talk about my wife like that ever again. You understand me? OK? You want to talk about my priorities after what you and your brother did to me and my family? No, no, no. You–you don’t get to–

I know, Chad. I know. I don’t get to do anything except exactly what you say, because apparently I–I don’t have my own life anymore.

[dramatic music]

You’re right. I get it. Yeah, you’re a victim too. But it– [clears throat] I don’t have the energy for this right now. I got to call Jennifer, check in on the kids.

I’m gonna take a shower.

Room’s all clear. I think we’re good.

[sighs] Thank God.

I’m gonna let Chad know about Weston’s note. [phone ringing]

It’s my dad.

Aren’t you gonna answer it?

[sighs] Well, my mom’s called about six times since we left, and I keep ignoring ’cause I know she’s just gonna try to convince me to come home. I guess she thought my dad might have better luck.

Maybe you should just take it and get it over with.

Yeah, I guess. Hey, Dad, listen, don’t bother trying to talk me out of this. Everything’s gonna be fine. Dad, what’s wrong?

Oh, my God. When? All right. No, it’s OK, but I should go. Hey, thanks for letting me know.

JJ, what happened?

Doug died.

JJ was…[sighs] Having a difficult time with his mental health, and we decided to just take a little space so he could, you know, work on getting better. And I saw him with Gabi. I just assumed that they were sleeping together. And I was so– [sighs] I was so upset that I just– I–I ran and I slept with Eli.

Mm. Yeah, but I bet you never called JJ a cheating slut, did you?

Mama!

[sighs] The point is, Mama, that I upended all of our lives. That night with Eli changed everything.

Mm.

That was the night I got pregnant with David Abraham.

Oh, my God. Lani, I’m so sorry. I did not mean to bring up a painful memory for you.

Sis, you’re–you didn’t. I did. And trust me, I think about my baby boy every day.

Mm. Well, you know, I think it’s–you know, it’s good of you to offer up this analogy to make your sister feel better, but I don’t think that what you did was remotely comparable to what Johnny did. You and JJ, well, you were together; you were not together. You didn’t owe each other anything.

Still, Mama, we were never able to recover from that.

Yeah, well, you know what? It–it just–you just weren’t meant to be, baby.

Well, I–I understand where Lani is coming from. I–I could never get past Allie cheating on me. And, oh, thank God that Johnny didn’t turn to someone else when he thought that I was sneaking around with Alex, because if he had done that, that’s just something that no matter how much I love him, I don’t think I could live with that.

Dad, did you hear me? You’re gonna call Joy. You’re gonna retract your offer.

No point, Johnny. She’s already accepted it.

So what? Tell her you changed your mind.

It’s bad form to renege now.

Oh, to hell with bad form. And then what? How are you gonna explain Joy just all of a sudden leaving her job?

As the lawyer negotiating her contract release, I’ll just finesse things with Abe and Kate. We’ll tell them that she’s homesick.

Mm. From Nancy Wesley? She can’t stand that woman.

It’s her mother, Johnny. I’m sure she misses her whether they get along or not. Besides which, Abe and Kate have no idea how Joy feels about Nancy. And I’ll just tell them that she also misses New York City, the flashy lights, the fast pace. Salem was just too slow for her.

[scoffs] Hardly.

The point is, she will get her golden parachute. No one will be the wiser. And you and Chanel and presumably Joy Wesley will live happily ever after. Son, you know this is the best solution.

It’s blackmail.

Yeah, well, technically it’s bribery. At least it’s not murder.

Yeah. Yeah, so much for that.

Let me do this for you, son, please.

– That is a terrible deal, Joy. Why would you even accept that?

Look, I thought about it for a whole day before I agreed. And honestly, I think it is the best solution for everybody. You know what? I could use the money for a new beginning.

Is that what you really want to do? You want to walk away from your first acting contract two weeks in? Word gets out about that, you know what happens? Your career is over. Seriously. And what happens to Johnny, Mr. DiMera? His wife, his life, everything stays the same. But what happens to Joy? Joy gets ran out of town with her tail tucked between her legs. It’s bull crap. It’s not fair. It’s not right. You don’t want to leave this job. You love it. Look at me. You love it, don’t you?

Yes. Yes, I love it.

Then why–then… you need to be smart about this, OK? This is vintage DiMera crap, them playing God with people’s lives. So be smart, and you tell EJ to take his offer and shove it.

Yeah, well, please just tell the kids I love them and– and that I’ll be home soon. And give them a big hug for me. I will. Thank you.

[dramatic music]

Chad, what’s wrong?

Doug passed away.

What? When?

Shortly after we left. Passed away in his sleep.

[sighs] My God, I’m so sorry.

Yeah.

I mean, he was so full of life.

The house is gonna be really quiet when we get home.

Yeah, he was a really sweet spirit. I mean, even with everything, he never said an unkind word to me.

I should be at home with the kids right now.

They loved him.

I mean, I–I wasn’t a–a Horton or a Williams. I was lucky to live there with Abigail and the kids. But Doug, he– he was always–always down to make slime with Charlotte, play “Scrabble” with Thomas, babysit. He was there for my son when– my son and I, we– we butted heads a little bit after Abby passed away, and he was always– always there for him.

I wished–wished my father was more like Doug.

I’m– I’m really sorry for your loss. If there’s anything that I can do–

No, there’s nothing you can do.

Oh, my God. Poor Julie… to lose a partner as wonderful as that man.

And the two of them, we all wish we could have a love like that. Are you OK?

Yeah. Yeah, it’s just… [chuckles] Doug and I had this whole music set planned for Christmas.

At least you were able to spend one last time with him.

We were– we were just talking the other day about how he gave me Great-Grandma Alice’s wedding ring to propose to Lani. He knew I was– I was jumping into something I wasn’t ready for, and he… even tried to gently warn me. He was right, as always.

And now Lani’s married to his grandson, so… I guess it all worked out. [chuckles] I’m really gonna miss him.

JJ, I’m so sorry.

Sometimes the most traumatic thing can bring you closer to someone.

Mm-hmm, so true.

Losing David Abraham was the most painful thing I have ever been through. But grieving together, it– it brought me and Eli closer together in the end.

Mm, but–but look–look– look, now–now, look. You have those wonderful twins and a beautiful life together.

Yeah, we do.

Mm-hmm.

Even though there was bumps along the way. [laughter]

You know, the other night when–when Johnny was sick, it was the first time that I just forgot about everything that had happened. And I just– I just wanted to take him in my arms and make him feel better.

Sis, if you feel that way about him and he feels that way about you, which I’m sure he does, you have nothing to worry about, OK? Your marriage is strong, and it is only gonna get stronger with time.

Like yours and Eli’s. Yeah. [laughter] Yeah, well, I sure hope so.

[sighs] Dad, I hate this, OK? This is not fair to anyone.

Would you rather Chanel know the truth?

No, but I–

Then you know this is for the best. Look, son, I know you feel bad, but you shouldn’t blow up your entire marriage because you scratched an itch of what I’m assuming is a one-time lapse in judgment.

Yes. Yes, of course. It was once. Obviously I– [sighs] [scoffs] Fine. Fine. Thank you.

Good man.

There is– there’s one more loose end you should know about.

And what is that?

Someone else found out about me and Joy.

Alex, I can’t back out of a deal that I made with EJ DiMera. The guy is seriously scary. I mean, the DiMeras are basically, what, a Mob family, right?

DiMera or not, EJ’s the DA. He shouldn’t be bullying and blackmailing people.

Well, he did both, obviously, and I didn’t push back.

[sighs]

And I’m meeting him in 20 minutes to pick up my check, so it’s a done deal. I’m not changing my mind, Alex. I can’t.

Joy, I just think maybe–

And I don’t want anybody to ever hear the truth. Not Chanel, nothing, OK? I need you to stay out of this, Alex. OK?

Maybe we– maybe you’ll be able to make it back in time for the funeral.

We already missed it.

Oh.

Julie didn’t want to bother me. She– she figured I should stay focused on going after Clyde.

[dramatic music]

Right. Chad, can we try not to fight? I know you’re grieving now, and I know you’re stressed. I don’t want to add anything to that.

OK. Well, then let’s just– let’s just do what we need to do to get Clyde, and then we’ll– we’ll get the hell out of here.

[line rings]

[phone rings]

It’s Chad.

Hey, Chad. I was just about to call you.

Yeah, JJ, listen, I just talked to your mom.

Oh. Yeah, I just talked to my dad. He told me about Doug.

I’m sorry we wer– we weren’t there.

Me too. But I know that Doug would want us to be here, doing exactly what we’re doing for Abigail.

Yeah. Any news from Clyde?

[clears throat] Yeah, yeah. He–he left you a note. Said he’ll be in touch in the morning.

OK. OK, well, then… we’ll just hunker down and– and we’ll come up with a plan for–for when we do hear from him, then.

You OK, sis?

Yeah, I’m– I’m just sad about leaving tomorrow.

Yeah, we’re sad about that too.

Mm-hmm.

But we’ll see you again for Christmas, right?

Yes, absolutely. As long as Eli can get the time off.

Mm. I tried. I tried to get them to come back here. I tried to talk them into it, but they’re just having a little too much fun in D.C.

Mom, we’ve been over this. It is not about having too much fun in D.C. It’s about Eli’s job. It’s about my new job. It’s not wanting to uproot the twins right now. OK, Mom, we told you that we’re not ruling out coming back here.

I know, sweetheart.

Well, in the meantime, until you do come back here, which we can’t wait for, there’s gonna be a lot of visits, right?

Yes, lots of visits, yes.

OK.

[laughs]

All right. Well, I should get out of here. I need to go get dressed so that I can get back to my husband. But I–I love you, sis.

I love you too, sis.

Mm. And I am so glad that we got to do this.

Same. And in the meantime, I get to watch my beautiful sis on “Body & Soul,” the star of “Body & Soul.”

Oh, stop. [laughs] No, I was mostly a nepo hire, but I am starting to wonder if it is such a good idea to work with my husband.

Ooh, I know– I know how that is, but it has its perks, right?

Yeah, it does. We get to see each other more, and, you know, it’s–it’s been good, and I think it’s only gonna get better.

Alex Kiriakis? Why was Joy shooting her big mouth off to that blockhead?

Just bring it down.

I don’t think this girl is as innocent as you make her out to be, Johnny, given that she has caused trouble at every turn.

She just needed someone to talk to, OK? It’s not like she planned on telling him.

Right.

Look, she said that he promised he wasn’t gonna tell anyone because he cares about Chanel and doesn’t want her to get hurt.

So he is concerned about not hurting Chanel. What about you?

What about me?

Has it occurred to you, son, that Alex Kiriakis might use that information to make sure he has the upper hand always with you?

No. No, I hadn’t, but I–I don’t think he would do that.

Well, I hope for your sake you’re right about that.

Joy, I think that you are going to regret this decision, but I promised you I wouldn’t say anything to Chanel, and I won’t.

Thank you.

[chuckles]

I’m sure they’ll find another Regan Holloway.

No, definitely not as good as you. Really, though, I enjoyed working with you.

Same.

[sighs] Well, I hope maybe our paths will cross someday.

Yeah.

[laughs]

Me too.

I’m sorry.

It’s OK.

I’ll see you.

[mellow music]

I couldn’t find a delivery service that would take cash. There’s obviously no room service here, but we do have peanuts.

Thanks.

Yeah.

I’m–I’m pretty exhausted, so I– I think I’m just gonna go to sleep.

OK.

[clears throat]

What are you doing?

You should take the bed.

No, what are you–it was– it was my idea to share a room, so you take the bed.

[scoffs] Chad, I’m fine.

Take the bed, Cat.

[sighs]

Besides, I’m gonna be on lookout tonight anyway.

We should take turns. It’s gonna be a long night, and you need sleep too.

I don’t think I could if I wanted to. Get some sleep.

Good night.

[dramatic music]

Chad gave us his gold card, so we can order whatever you want from room service.

What do you mean, whatever I want? What about you?

I’m not hungry. Just want to get to bed. Fast-forward to tomorrow.

I feel the same way. I’m exhausted. No food for me either.

OK. All right. That’s fine. Yeah, you take the bed.

Come on, Mr. Chivalrous. It’s not as though we’ve never shared a bed before, and we both need a good night’s sleep for whatever happens tomorrow. There’s plenty of room for the both of us.

If you’re sure.

I’m sure, JJ.

Come on. [laughs]

[insects trilling]

[somber music]

Someone already brought him flowers.

I did. I come visit every few weeks.

I didn’t know that.

He’s still a part of our family. My first and forever grandchild.

Hi, my sweet baby boy.

Mama thinks about you all the time, and I miss you. I love you so, so much. [chuckles, sniffles]

[sighs]

[clears throat] You’re late.

By one minute.

Yes, that means you’re late. Here’s the check. Now pack your things and go.

[tense music]

Where’s your daddy?

[scoffs] He’s not here, Alex. What can I do for you?

Well, I assume you know that he offered Joy money to leave town. And I also assume that you’re the one that put him up to it.

No, I didn’t. It wasn’t my idea, and I feel awful about it.

But not awful enough to stop him, right?

Look, I know that Joy told you about what happened between us. I hope she also explained–

That you thought Chanel slept with me, so you turned to a stranger that you didn’t know was gonna be your new coworker. Yes, Johnny boy, she told me all about it. And aside from the fact of what you thought incorrectly didn’t make anything better, this is now a huge loss for the show.

[sighs] Yeah, well, she can be recast.

She can. And you, my friend, are just as replaceable. You know that, right? Maybe more. Joy doesn’t want to quit her job, dude. She loves it. She admitted it to me when I tried to talk her out of leaving.

You what? [scoffs] Damn it! Alex, look, this is none of your business, all right? This is none of your business, so why don’t you just butt out before you mess everything up?

What the hell is going on in here?
