Abby: Where are they taking him?

Mariah: Is he okay?

Devon: Can we see him again?

Nate: We’re sending him to the nursery so we can give him a bath and run some tests. Perfectly normal. Nothing to worry about.

Devon: But he looks healthy, right?

Nate: Has all his fingers and toes, scored high on the apgar test, lungs sound great.

Mariah: Is there anything else that I need to do?

Nate: Yes, and this is very important. Rest. You and the baby are safe, and you’re surrounded by people who love you. Now all you have to do is let us take care of you.

Devon: Listen, nate, I don’t even know what to say about today, man.

Abby: I do. Thank you.

Mariah: For everything.

Devon: Yeah.

Nate: No, you three did all the hard work. You brought a baby into this world under less than ideal circumstances. Congratulations to you all. I’ll be back shortly.

Devon: Thanks again, man.

Mariah: So crazy. I thought I was never getting out of that room. Some nameless, faceless monster snatched me up off the street. I was afraid that they were only keeping me alive until after the baby was born. After I gave birth to bowie, i wouldn’t be of use to them anymore, so…

Abby: Well, that sounds awful.

Mariah: So, you’re telling me it was stitch. All along, he was the one who was keeping me prisoner?

Devon: That’s — that’s what it’s looking like.

Mariah: Why would he do that?

Rey: And if anything looks promising, send it my way. I want to be the first to know. Thanks.

Victor: Um…

Rey: He was there. Stitch was right there at the house where he was holding mariah, minutes before I got there. But he took off, and now there’s no sign of him.

Chloe: Do you know what time it is?

Sally: Why does that feel like a trick question?

Chloe: [ Laughs ] It is time for you to officially meet my friend and business partner, chelsea lawson.

Chelsea: Hello!

Chloe: Hey, you. I have someone here I want you to meet.

Sally: Chelsea! I’m sally spectra. I — [ Sighs ] This is such a pleasure. I just want you to know how excited I am to be working for you and chloe. I have followed the evolution of your lines for years. Chelsea by jabot was a revelation. The line that you did for forrester really, really set the bar, and then the chelsea 2.0 line, I mean, there was a certain whimsy to it, yet it was grounded and sophisticated. I… I just consider it an honor to be working with you.

Chelsea: And I would consider it a miracle if you came up for air.

[ Chuckles ] Uh, look, I haven’t even decided if I’m taking the position yet, so…

Sally: Oh. But I —

Chloe: Sorry. Wait, wait a minute. Um, we talked about this. You are the reason why i accepted adam’s offer at newman. You and I were going to work together again when you came back. I mean, did you think that i just accepted the job just to torture adam?

Chloe: Listen, chloe, i appreciate all the hard work you’ve put into the platform, but at this point, I can’t really commit.

Nick: Hey.

Phyllis: Hey. Ah, I’m so bummed out that i missed your text about takeout.

Nick: It’s a damn shame. I had to eat it all myself.

Phyllis: You ordered all my things. Oh, I’m sorry I was tied up.

Nick: That’s alright. Yeah, um, sally actually made a point of telling me that. She said you were with jack.

Phyllis: Sally — I mean, i thought I got rid of her when i booted her out of this hotel. She continues to antagonize me.

Nick: Oh, I know what she’s up to. She’s upset that you uncovered her plan to drive summer away, and she’s trying to get back at you.

Phyllis: By trying to make you jealous of my friendship with jack, which is ridiculous.

Nick: I do have a question, though.

Phyllis: Yeah, what is it?

Nick: Just forget about sally’s agenda and be honest.

Phyllis: I’m always honest with you.

Nick: I know. If I wasn’t in the picture, would you be tempted to get back together with jack? Hi. So you’re the scientist here.

Phyllis: I mean, I usually like your games. I mean, I excel at them, but this game is hypothetical. It’s weird. I don’t want to answer that. Why are you asking me that? You know that sally is jerking your chain.

Nick: It’s got nothing to do with her. Just trying to have an honest conversation.

Phyllis: Well, I’m being honest. But why a conversation like this, with this hypothetical question? I mean, you are in the picture. And I love you. So I don’t understand where this is coming from. It’s like me asking you, “hey, if I wasn’t in the picture, could you see yourself with sharon?” Could you? No, I’m just kidding.

[ Laughs ] I mean, it’s pointless. Come on.

Nick: I’m just curious. Can you just humor me?

Phyllis: Jack is my friend. We share a bond, and that’s it. Okay? You’re not threatened by him, are you?

Nick: Of course not. I’m extremely confident in our relationship.

Phyllis: Good, because I am a one-man woman, and you are the man for me.

[ Video call ringing ]

Adam: [ Sighs ] Chelsea.

Chelsea: Hey. How’s everything going?

Adam: It’s busy. Is your mother doing better?

Chelsea: She’s on the mend. Is connor doing okay now that camp is over?

Adam: He’s enjoying the rest of his summer, and he’s actually looking forward to going back to school. I think he’s found some comfort in a normal routine.

Chelsea: Well, thank you for maintaining structure for him while I got the help I needed and found my footing.

Adam: Well, he loves you. He needs you in his life, chelsea. I want that for him. And for you.

Chelsea: You sound like you mean it.

Adam: Because I do.

Chelsea: Hey, listen, so there’s another reason for my call. I just spoke to chloe about this woman that she hired, sally spectra. I just had a video chat with her.

Adam: Uh-huh. So what do you think?

Chelsea: I’m not so sure about her.

Adam: Why not?

Chelsea: Have you seen her résumé? Have you looked into her track record?

Adam: I’ve heard a thing or two.

Chelsea: She created her own company, then goes to work at forrester, then abruptly leaves la for genoa city. She apparently burned a bunch of bridges because she was quick to take the job as lauren’s assistant and then somehow gets herself promoted to head of jcv. And then it only took lauren, what, two minutes to see right through her and fire her?

Adam: Well, I think newman media is a better fit.

Chelsea: Okay, I understand that chloe saw something in her worth taking a chance on, and i understand being in the position to need that, but I talked to that girl for less than a minute and I could tell that she was a master manipulator with blind ambition with a total lack of scruples.

Adam: And you got all of that from one conversation?

Chelsea: I know you’ve given chloe free rein to run the fashion platform, but this sally deserves a second look.

Adam: You have nothing to worry about. Chloe’s in charge of the division, but believe, I have my eye on everything.

Mariah: Stitch, the doctor, he ignored me while I was screaming for help? He made me terrified that I was gonna die all while trying not to upset the child that I was carrying.

Abby: Well, apparently, he thought that if he abducted you, then he could rescue you and he would be a hero in my eyes.

Mariah: I went into labor all alone. I was terrified that I was gonna have to bring bowie into this world all by myself. I want him locked up forever for what he did to me and what could’ve happened to bowie. Please tell me that he’s not gonna get away with this.

Devon: Mariah, the police are on top of it, so he’s gonna get found.

Elena: Hey, everyone. So only two visitors are allowed at a time right now, and there are two people anxiously waiting to see mariah, so I’m gonna have to ask you to step out.

Devon: Oh, yeah.

Abby: We’ll be right back.

Tessa: Oh, my god.

Sharon: Sweetheart.

Tessa: I knew you’d come back to me.

Sharon: Oh, goodness. Thank god. You have idea…

Tessa: Oh, I missed you.

Mariah: I missed you more, i promise.

Sharon: I’m just glad that you’re back with us, safe.

Mariah: Me, too, mom. I was socared. Now, we all know progressive offers 24/7 protection,

Nick: I’m sorry. I’m sorry. That’s not what I meant. I did not mean to make you uncomfortable.

Phyllis: Okay, thanks. That makes me think of victoria, though. You know, how difficult it must be for her to be in love with somebody who doesn’t have a lot of time. It helps that he’s a millionaire. But she’d probably want to savor every moment, don’t you think? And then there’s the interference from helpful relatives.

Nick: I wish I could leave it alone, you know? I wish I could trust victoria’s instincts when it comes to ashland, but I can’t shake this feeling that he can’t be trusted. I mean, why does this wedding have to happen so fast? It doesn’t make sense. There’s got to be more to the story.

Phyllis: I understand, but if she’s happy, just let her be happy.

Nick: I wish I felt that way for all the reasons you said. I do. You know, when you find love, you got to grab onto it.

Phyllis: I know you’re worried about your sister, and i think that’s beautiful. And I’m the last person to judge you for running interference after what I did, so I’m not gonna argue with you, okay?

Nick: [ Laughs ]

[ Cellphone rings ] Oh, it’s my dad. Hey, dad.

Victor: Hi, my boy. I just wanted you to know that you’re an uncle once again. Abby is a mother.

Nick: Great. That’s awesome. What about mariah?

Victor: Mariah and the baby are resting comfortably at memorial, alright? You know, they’ve all been through an enormous ordeal, as you know.

Nick: Alright, well, I want to see them.

Victor: I would hold off with that. Let them rest a little. I’ll fill you in on the details.

Nick: Yeah, yeah, cool. Well, thanks for calling, and congratulations, grandpa.

Victor: [ Laughs ] Talk to you later.

Phyllis: Good news?

Nick: The best.

Nate: Hey, cuz. You good?

Devon: Hey. Yeah, yeah, I am good. Really good. I was just thinking about how happy I am that you answered the phone when I called you.

[ Both laugh ]

Nate: Oh, man, I can — I can only imagine the voicemail you would have left me.

Devon: Oh, dude, I wouldn’t have known what to do.

Nate: Well, definitely a call I’m glad I didn’t miss.

Devon: Yeah, me too. And I just — I want to tell you again how grateful I am that you were there for us and helped us out and just how calm and professional you were through that whole thing, ’cause it was — it’s a lot. It’s really something, man, seeing a new life come into the world like that. Like, even though I was focused on helping mariah and making sure the baby was okay, I could still register that there was a miracle happening.

Nate: Yeah.

Devon: You know?

Nate: Does something to you.

Devon: It was crazy. Then to get hold him in my arms until he stopped crying, I felt that connection instantly with him. And just staring into his big eyes. Just sitting here, it’s got me reliving the whole thing. I mean, thinking about all sorts of — thinking about my time with hilary, everything we shared. I’m probably not making sense. I’m all over the place.

Nate: No, no, no. That baby is carrying a part of you. And you helped bring him into this world. I think you’re making perfect sense.

Sharon: I know how awful this must have been for you, and I was so scared for you. We all were. But you were my brave girl and you got yourself and the baby through this. You know what? We can talk about all this later. I’m gonna give you two some private time.

Tessa: You okay?

Mariah: Yeah, I am now.

Tessa: I love you so much.

Mariah: Oh. I felt you there with me, you know?

Tessa: I felt you, too. I said so many prayers and made promises. Just please let me see her face again, and I’ll spend the rest of my life looking at that beautiful face. And now you’re here. And I’m never gonna let you go again. Is now a good time for a flare-up?

Abby: Dad.

Victor: Hi, sweetheart.

Abby: I thought you left.

Victor: No, I went shopping.

Abby: For me?

Victor: Have a seat.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Victor: No, not for you. For my grandson. But I’m sure he wouldn’t mind if you opened it.

Abby: Aww.

Victor: You know, it so reminds me of the one that you played with when you were a toddler.

Abby: Oodles. Yeah, I remember him.

[ Both laugh ]

Victor: I hope your son will love stuffed animals as much as you do.

Abby: Thank you. And thank you for bringing in your investigators.

Victor: I’d do anything for you.

Abby: I know that feeling now because I have a baby of my own.

Victor: I’m so happy for you. Now, I know you’re gonna have to, you know, be concerned with mariah and the baby and visit them and take care of them, and, um… but I am so looking forward to my first visit. Okay?

Abby: So am I.

Victor: You take care, alright?

Abby: Alright.

Victor: And get some rest, you know.

Abby: I will. I love you, dad.

Victor: I adore you. And remember, first visit better come soon.

Abby: Soon.

Devon: Mr. Newman.

Abby: [ Sighs, chuckles ] Did we really just do that?

Devon: I think we really did just do that, yeah. I think so. I know, it’s all still sinking in. It’s probably gonna make sense to us in like 10 years when we look back on everything. Or it never will.

Abby: No.

Devon: Yeah.

[ Chuckles ] No. All I know is that you said you wanted a family, and then we all came together and we made that perfect little boy. And we got to witness him being born. Doesn’t get much better than that, you know? I’m just so incredibly thankful that things didn’t turn out worse, ’cause it could’ve.

Abby: I know, I was just thinking the same thing. Because of stitch, our innocent little baby might not have been able to come into this world. You know, you didn’t just help create him, you saved his life, because you listened to your instincts. I mean, me, I was too bowled over by ben’s kindness to see what was going on until it was almost too late.

Devon: Don’t do that. You don’t need to start blaming yourself, abby. There’s no one would have been able to predict that stitch would do something that damn crazy. Nobody. He’s always been a trustworthy guy and a good guy. I wouldn’t even let myself believe it at first.

Abby: But you — you sensed that something was off and you had the courage to act on your suspicions.

Devon: The two of you were married, and he definitely played a lot on that, so you don’t have anything to feel guilty about. Hell, you’re the one that came through and found mariah. Between you doing that and nate coaching us through everything, that baby is okay and safe because of what we all did together.

Elena: I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen you smile this much.

Nate: [ Sighs ] Coaching my cousin through childbirth was not the way i expected this day to go.

Elena: But it was a very special surprise, wasn’t it?

Nate: I think this experience had a profound effect on devon. You know, not just witnessing a newborn making his way into this world, but, uh…a baby he’s connected to, you know, that’s carrying a part of him. I think it him in ways he wasn’t expecting.

Elena: Because of the baby he lost with hilary.

Nate: Devon’s already got a bond with this child. Something deep, meaningful.

Elena: I am so happy for devon.

Nate: Hey, I got to tell you, though, this kid is lucky to have devon in his life right from the start.

[ Both laugh ]

Elena: Definitely.

Nate: Oh, man. There is so many ways this could’ve gone wrong, given the circumstances. But I am thoroughly impressed. They all kept their heads. They did it.

Elena: Yeah, with your help.

Nate: I’m not sure how much i helped.

Elena: What? You stayed calm and you shared your knowledge and you gave everyone the confidence they needed. I am so grateful that it all turned out okay and so happy for everyone involved. And I couldn’t be prouder of you.

Sally: Phyllis, wow, someone really ought to put a bell around your neck.

Phyllis: I’d like to put something around your neck.

Sally: Oh. Can you say that a little louder? Maybe someone can record you, and then I can actually use it as —

Phyllis: I have one message for you — you stay away from my man.

Sally: Wow. Insecurity, it’s astonishing.

Phyllis: That is your first and final warning.

Sally: What on earth set you off? I mean, I actually barely even remember the last time that i saw h– oh, no. No, no, no, I actually do remember. Nick was planning a romantic surprise for the two of you, but you were too busy fawning all over jack, so eager to claim your place in his life.

Phyllis: Okay, you don’t know what you’re talking about. Jack and I are —

Sally: In the past. Yeah, I agree, and it would probably be healthier for the two of you if you learned to move on ’cause, otherwise, just seems inappropriate.

Phyllis: Wait, you’re telling me something’s inappropriate?

Sally: You couldn’t stand how much jack was into me, that i actually made him happy.

Phyllis: You keep coming at me like some delusional plan of retaliation, and that’s not a good idea, I am telling you. Haven’t you had enough? Isn’t this over for you?

Sally: I’m still here, aren’t I? I brought in ensure max protein,

“The young and the restless”

will continuE.

Phyllis: Wow. You are really full of yourself, aren’t you?

Sally: I have a right to be, ’cause despite all your attempts to ruin my life, I actually landed on my feet.

Phyllis: Oh, sally, come on. Chloe threw you a bone. And adam, he likes working with the town pariah. You’re delusional, completely delusional. Oh, chloe is smart and tough. Obviously, she doesn’t mind dealing with a two-faced opportunist.

Sally: Yeah, we have that in common.

Phyllis: Yeah, and once you do something completely underhanded — and you will — you will be cut off.

Sally: You keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better, but the truth is, chloe actually knows how valuable I am and she’s not too much of a hypocrite to give me an opportunity to make a name for myself on a fashion platform that just so happens to be a part of a powerhouse media company, so, yes, it’s a fantastic opportunity. And just so you know, adam and I, we’ve got no issues. We actually really get each other.

Phyllis: Oh.

[ Laughs ]

Sally: What?

Phyllis: You and adam “get each other.” Oh, wow. This is great. I’m — I’m actually envisioning this whole thing playing out. Wow. You know the best part of it is when karma comes knocking at your door and takes you out.

Sally: It’s gonna be so much fun proving you wrong.

Phyllis: Yeah, it’s gonna be a lot of fun, that’s for sure. You know what? You go ahead and you do your thing with adam. Be besties with adam, it’s great. But…I’m telling you, okay? Get out of my orbit. Get out of my life. I don’t want to hear my name mentioned by you, or your stay in this town will come to a very abrupt end. Do you get that?

Tessa: [ Humming ]

Sharon: Hey, how’s our girl?

Tessa: She’s still pretty anxious, but at least she’s able to let go and get some rest that she really needs.

Sharon: Every minute she was away from us must have been a nightmare for her.

Tessa: I just wish I could make it all go away.

Sharon: You know what? We’re gonna do our best and we’re gonna help her get through this.

Tessa: Um, will you sit with her for a little while? I just have to run home and grab some things for her, and I — I don’t want her waking up alone.

Sharon: Of course.

Tessa: We’ll take shifts. I’ll see you soon.

Sharon: Okay.

Devon: Hey, tessa.

Tessa: I want to say thank you for finding mariah and bringing her home to me.

Devon: Tessa, you know you don’t have to thank us for that. You know how much we love her.

Tessa: I’m just really grateful that mariah has so many people that care about her. Um, okay. I’m going to go home and grab some things for her, but before I go, do you happen to know where the chapel is?

Devon: I think it’s on the third floor. Why?

Tessa: Well, sharon and i prayed really hard for mariah to come home, so I think it’s time for me to say thanks.

Devon: See ya.

Nick: Hey, have you heard?

Adam: Hmm?

Nick: We got a new nephew. Newest addition to the newman family and the abbotts and the chancellors.

Adam: Ah. Yeah, pedigree like that, kid’s got his work cut out for him.

Nick: Yeah, christian’s gonna be so fired up when he hears he’s got a new little cousin to show the ropes to.

Adam: Um, speaking of our ever-growing family, victoria and locke?

Nick: Yeah. An october wedding.

Adam: What’s your take?

Nick: You know, vick seems like she’s in love, and from all appearances, it seems like ashland is, too.

Adam: Come on, you’re being vague because you’re too polite to say that you are less than thrilled.

Nick: Vick seems happy. That’s all I care about. And they don’t know how much time they have left together, so I guess they should make it official, right?

Adam: Unless there’s a reason why they shouldn’T. I mean, how much do we really know about ashland locke?

Nick: Man, I have been asking myself that over and over again.

Adam: Mm.

Sally: Nick, good to run into you again. Hi, boss.

Nick: Got to go. See ya.

Adam: Yep. You know, I get the feeling he does not care for you.

Sally: Yeah, he’s still miffed about the whole summer thing, but don’t worry, I will turn things around. I love a challenge. In fact, adam, you have inspired me.

Adam: I don’t know if I’ve ever heard my name and the word “inspired” in the same sentence.

Sally: Well, you told me that instead of wasting my energy on putting phyllis in her place that I should focus on making a name for myself.

Adam: Oh, no. What have I unleashed?

Sally: Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Adam: So, are you gonna tell me what your plan is?

Sally: We’ll see.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] As someone who resembles someone else…

Abby: So, I was thinking that since mariah can only have two visitors right now, and sharon’s in there, that maybe…

Devon: [ Chuckles ] What are you waiting for, mama? Get in there. Go ahead. I was actually gonna — gonna give lily a call ’cause she has no idea what’s happened.

Abby: Oh, she’s gonna be shocked.

Devon: Oh, yeah, she is. She’s gonna want to come and visit the little guy. God. I wish that — I wish neil was here to meet him, you know?

Abby: Well, I have no doubt that neil is here with us right now, and he is smiling on our perfect little boy.

Devon: Yeah.

Adam: Come on, you have to give me a hint on what I have inspired you to do to make a name for yourself.

Sally: It is something that will be good for the fashion platform and newman media.

Adam: Well, I hope that means you have officially abandoned the idea of seeking revenge on phyllis.

Chloe: We have too much to achieve to waste time on personal vendettas.

Adam: That’s exactly what i told her. Especially since tomorrow is the official, very public launch of newman media and we need to be ready to hit the ground running.

Chloe: We are more than ready.

Adam: Good. Uh, I’m heading back to the office, so I’ll see you in the morning. I suggest you come in early.

Chloe: Why on earth would you tell him that you are thinking about going after phyllis?

Sally: It’s fine. I agreed with him that it would be a waste of time, and i promised him that I would channel all my energy into newman because I appreciate what a wonderful and rare opportunity this is, and I’m not gonna blow it. But I do get the feeling that chelsea may not be on board with me being a part of this.

Chloe: No, she is. She just… it takes her a while to get used to people, but trust me, she will come around once she sees how talented you are.

Sally: But she said that she may not even want to join us.

Chloe: She will. But there has been a lot of upheaval in her life lately. You know how it is. But I am not gonna let her say anything but yes to working with us.

Abby: Well, chance, you are a dad. Just like you always wanted. And I have no way of letting you know. It breaks my heart. I just wish you were here to meet your son.

[ Sighs ]

[ Door opens ] Hi.

Elena: Hi. Guess who’s ready for his feeding.

Abby: Oh. Well, you don’t work in pediatrics. This is outside your hospital duties.

Elena: I know. I volunteered to help with this little guy. I was so excited, I couldn’t stay away. Though he is very hungry.

Abby: Oh. Well, um, mariah and I, we had all these birth plans, but then everything went out the window when things went haywire.

Elena: What was your feeding plan?

Abby: Mariah was gonna pump, but, um, if he’s hungry, then we should supplement with formula for now.

Elena: I came prepared. First…here is your son. There we go.

Abby: Hi. Ohh. You remember me?

[ Chuckles ] Isn’t he the most amazing baby in the world?

Elena: Here. Enjoy. The first feeding only happens once.

Abby: [ Sighs ] My plaque psoriasis…

Chloe: Hey, gorgeous. Look, I know you have a lot going on, but it’s time for you to make some decisions. It’s time for you to reclaim your life.

Chelsea: I’ve got reservations about working with sally.

Chloe: Fine. Come home, spend some time with her, see if you think that she is a good fit, but don’t talk like you’re not gonna take the job because then you don’t get an opinion.

Chelsea: I’ve heard things about her.

Chloe: Well, she has heard some things about us, too, but I’m telling you, she is talented and she is motivated and hungry.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] I don’t know. I need to think about it.

Chloe: Chelsea, time is running out. Life is moving on, and you have to make the decision if you are going to move on, too. Newman media is launching tomorrow. Come home. Work with me, like we planned. We can only hold onto this position for so long. I’ve got sally here. I’m just afraid that if you don’t join us soon, we’re gonna be forced to move on without you.

Sally: Knock knock.

Adam: I think you’re supposed to say that before you come in.

Sally: Huh, never really been one for tradition.

Adam: Hmm. Surprised to see you here so late.

Sally: Well, I took a break from plotting phyllis’ downfall to do some actual work. I didn’t realize the newman media launch party was tomorrow night until you mentioned it, so I thought i should have something to show you.

Adam: You do realize that i leave all the fashion decisions up to chloe.

Sally: Yeah, but maybe I want your opinion. Maybe I just want to show you this because it’s perfect for the launch.

Adam: [ Sighs ] It’s good. It’s good. You really are talented, sally spectra.

Sally: Wow, don’t sound so surprised.

Adam: No, we will definitely use this. So, now that I’ve complimented your work, are you going to tell me what you plan to do to make a name for yourself?

Sally: Not ready to share that just yet, but keep the word “spectacular” in the back of your head.

Adam: I’m determined to get this out of you. So I was thinking that you might like to accompany me to the party to celebrate the official launch of newman media tomorrow. Do you have any interest?

Sally: We’ll see.

Abby: You are the bravest baby in the world. Absolute perfection. Look at your little eyes. It’s like you know all the secrets of the universe. I have never loved anyone as much as I love you. I have waited my entire life for you. And I have so much to tell you, but I know you’ve had a very busy day, so I’ll let you rest now. Mommy’s here. Mommy’s got you.

Recap written by Christine

Abby, Mariah and Devon were all apprehensive when the hospital staff took the baby. Nate explained that he was going to the nursery for a bath and tests, but so far, he seemed healthy. Mariah asked if there was anything she needed to do. Nate urged Mariah to rest. They were all grateful to Nate, but he said the three of them did all the hard work, and he congratulated them and left. Mariah confided how it felt to be snatched off the street by a stranger. She’d been afraid that they would kill her after Bowie was born. Abby seemed caught off guard by the name Bowie. Abby said it sounded awful. Mariah had learned it was Ben all along, and she didn’t understand why he’d do it. Abby explained that Ben had hoped to rescue Mariah and be Abby’s hero.

Mariah stated that Ben, the doctor, listened to her scream. She’d been terrified she’d die, but she was trying not to upset the child she was carrying. She was terrified she’d have to bring Bowie into the world all by herself. She didn’t want Ben to get away with this. Devon said the police would find Ben. Elena came in and asked Devon and Abby to leave, because Mariah could only have two visitors at a time, and there were two more people anxiously waiting to see her. They complied, and Tess rushed in and hugged Mariah tight. Sharon came in too. Sharon called Mariah her brave girl for getting herself and the baby through this. Sharon stepped out to give Tessa and Mariah some time. Tessa told Mariah she loved her and they hugged. They talked about how they felt each other when Mariah was being held captive. “I’m never gonna let you go again,” Tessa said.

Sharon returned and Mariah was sleeping. Tessa wished she could make all Mariah’s suffering go away. Sharon said they’d do all they could to support her. Tessa had to run home and get some stuff for Mariah, and she asked Sharon to sit with her.

Rey and Victor were in the hospital corridor. Rey finished a call, then he told Victor that there was no sign of Ben.

Nate sat with Devon in the waiting room. Devon was grateful Nate had been there to walk them through the baby’s birth. It was really something to see a new life coming into the world. It was a miracle. He felt an instant connection when he held the baby. It made him think about his time with Hilary. He didn’t know if this made sense. Nate said that baby was carrying a part of Devon, and he helped bring him into the world. It made perfect sense.

Abby was surprised to see Victor was still in the hospital. He gave her a Fenmore’s bag. There was a teddy bear in it. He said it reminded him of one Abby used to have when she was a toddler. Abby remembered him – it was named Oodles. She thanked Victor for bringing in his investigators. He said he’d do anything for her. She knew the feeling because she had a baby of her own. He knew she’d have to take care of Mariah and the baby, but he looked forward to his first visit. They said they loved each other. He wanted to see the baby soon, though.

After Victor left, Devon joined Abby. They marveled at the experience they shared. He stated that she wanted a family, and they all joined together to make that perfect little boy. He was grateful things didn’t turn out worse. She was thinking the same thing. Abby said that Devon didn’t just create the baby, he saved the baby’s life, because he trusted his instincts about Ben. Abby said she was too bowled over by Ben’s kindness to see what was happening until it was too late. He didn’t think she should blame herself. No one could’ve predicted Ben would do something like this. He noted that she was the one who came through and found Mariah. He felt that the three of them kept the baby safe.

In the waiting room, Tessa thanked Devon and Abby for bringing Mariah home to her. Devon said they didn’t need thanks. They loved Mariah. Tessa wanted to go to the chapel to say thank you for answering her prayers. After Tessa left, Abby mentioned that she wanted to see Mariah. Devon didn’t mind her taking the second visitor spot. He was going to call Lily and let her know what happened. He wished Neil was here to see the baby. She had no doubt that Neil was with them and he was smiling on their perfect little boy.

Abby sat with the sleeping Mariah. Sharon was out of the room. Abby was heartbroken that she had no way of letting Chance know he was a dad, like he’d always wanted to be.

Elena and Nate were at Crimson Lights. He couldn’t get over the fact that he’d coached his cousin through childbirth. He thought it had a profound experience on Devon, and he believed it hit Devon in a way he didn’t expect. Elena assumed that was because of the baby he lost with Hilary. He said Devon had a deep meaningful bond with the baby. She was happy for Devon. They agreed that the baby was lucky to have Devon in his life. He was impressed Mariah, Devon and Abby kept their heads together. Elena was proud of Nate.

Elena went back to work, and she took Baby Newman to Abby for a feeding. Mariah was planning to pump, but since she was sleeping, Elena brought a bottle of formula. Abby took her child and marveled that he was the most amazing baby in the world. Devon walked up and overheard Abby bonding with the baby. She said she’d waited her entire life for him. Mariah woke up when Abby said “Mommy’s here.” Mariah looked upset.

At Society, Sally and Chloe video chatted Chelsea. It was Sally and Chelsea’s first time meeting. Sally stated that she’d followed Chelsea’s work for years, and she proved this point by sharing her thoughts on every clothing line Chelsea once worked on. Sally was honored to be working with Chelsea. “And I would consider it a miracle if you came up for air,” Chelsea replied, commenting on the length of Sally’s monologue. Chloe was shocked when Chelsea said she wasn’t sure she was taking the position. Chloe protested that she accepted Adam’s job offer to work with Chelsea. Chelsea appreciated Chloe’s hard wok on the platform, but she couldn’t commit yet.

Chelsea called Adam, who was at work. They chatted about Anita, who was on the mend, and Connor, who was home from camp and looking forward to school starting. She thanked him for maintaining structure for Connor while she found her footing. Adam wanted Connor and Chelsea to be in each other’s lives. She thought he sounded like he meant that. The other reason Chelsea called was to talk about Sally. He asked what she thought of the new hire. Chelsea heard about Sally’s track record with jobs. She understood that Chloe saw something in her and Chelsea could relate to needing a chance. However, she talked to Sally for less than a minute and she could already see Sally was a master manipulator with a lack of scruples. She knew he gave Chloe free reign, but Sally deserved a second look. He said not to worry because he was keeping an eye on everything.

Nick met Phyllis at The Grand Phoenix. She was sorry she missed his lunch invitation, but she’d been tied up. Nick said Sally told him Phyllis was with Jack. Phyllis complained about Sally antagonizing her. Nick knew Sally was trying to get back at Phyllis for uncovering her scheme. Nick wanted to forget about Sally for a moment. He asked if Phyllis would be tempted to get back together with Jack if Nick wasn’t in the picture. She didn’t want to answer his weird hypothetical. He said he was just trying to have an honest conversation. She said Nick was in the picture, and she loved him. She didn’t know where this was coming from. She thought it’d be like asking if he’d be with Sharon if Phyllis weren’t in the picture. He was just curious, and he asked her to humor him, so she said Jack was just a friend. She asked if he was threatened by Jack, and he said of course not. He was confident in their relationship. She was glad, because she was a one man woman, and Nick was the man for her.

Nick didn’t mean to make Phyllis uncomfortable. Phyllis thought about how difficult it must be for Victoria to be in love with someone who didn’t have a lot of time while dealing with interfering relatives. Nick wished he could trust Victoria’s instincts, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that Ashland wasn’t trustworthy. Phyllis thought it was beautiful for Nick to worry about his sister, and she couldn’t judge him for running interference. Victor called Nick to let him know he was an uncle again. Nick asked about Mariah, and Victor said she was fine. Nick wanted to visit, but Victor asked him to hold off because everyone needed their rest.

Phyllis ran into Sally at Society. “You stay away from my man,” Phyllis warned. Sally called Phyllis insecure. She couldn’t remember the last time she saw Nick. She then remembered that she saw him planning a romantic surprise, but Phyllis had been too busy fawning over Jack. Phyllis said she and Jack were in the past. Sally thought it’d be healthier for Sally and Jack to move on, because this seemed inappropriate. Phyllis said it wasn’t a good idea for Sally to try and retaliate against her. “Haven’t you had enough,” Phyllis asked. “I’m still here aren’t I,” Sally replied.

Phyllis called Sally full of herself. Sally thought she had a right to be since she landed on her feet after Phyllis attempted to ruin her life. Phyllis scoffed and called Sally delusional. She was sure that Chloe would cut Sally off when she did something underhanded. Sally said Chloe knew how valuable she was. Sally felt that she had an opportunity to make a name for herself on a fashion platform that was part of a powerhouse media company. She said she and Adam really got each other. Phyllis doubled over laughing. She said karma was going to take Sally out. Sally was sure that Phyllis would be proven wrong. Phyllis told Sally to get out of her life. Phyllis said if Sally even mentioned her name, her stay in this town would come to an abrupt end.

Nick ran into Adam at Crimson Lights and told him about their new nephew. He thought Christian would be excited. Adam asked Nick’s take on Victoria and Locke. Nick said Victoria seemed happy, and that was all he cared about. Adam asked how much they knew about Ashland. Nick had been asking himself the same question. Sally walked in and said hi to the brothers. Nick walked away without acknowledging her. Adam commented on that, and Sally said Nick was still mad about the whole Summer thing. Sally wasn’t worried about that though, because she loved a challenge. Sally said she was inspired by Adam’s advice to focus on making a name for herself instead of Phyllis. He reacted with mock dread, asking what he’d unleashed. She told him to be afraid, very afraid. She promised it was something that would be good for the company. He hoped she’d abandoned seeking revenge on Phyllis. Chloe walked in and said they had too much to achieve to waste time on personal vendettas. Adam agreed, and he said tomorrow was the official public launch of Newman Media, and they had to be ready to hit the ground running. He suggested they come in early tomorrow. He left.

Chloe didn’t agree with Sally telling Adam she wanted to get revenge on Phyllis. Sally said she’d promised Adam that she’d channel her energy into Newman. She wouldn’t blow this rare opportunity. She sensed that Chelsea wasn’t on board with Sally’s involvement. Chloe said that Chelsea took awhile to get used to people. Chloe wasn’t going to let Chelsea back out of this.

Chloe got on video with Chelsea after Sally left. Chelsea had reservations about Sally. She’d heard some things. Chloe said Sally heard some things about them too, but Sally talented, motivated and hungry. Chelsea wasn’t sure. Chloe implored Chelsea to come home. She could only hold the position open for so long, and if Chelsea didn’t take it, they might be forced to move on without her.

Sally showed up at Adam’s office with something to show him. He said he left the fashion decisions up to Chloe, but she suggested that she wanted his opinion anyway. She thought this thing she’d worked on would be perfect for the launch. He looked at her work, and he liked it. He thought she really was talented, and he said they’d definitely use her creation. He wanted to know what she planned to do to make a name for herself. She still wouldn’t say, but she told him to remember the word “Spectacular.” He was determined to get this out of her. He asked her to accompany him to the launch party tomorrow. “We’ll see,” she replied.

Sharon: [ Sighs ] That was a nice walk, huh? Thanks for going with me. It’s so nice just to have someone who understands exactly what I’m going through.

Tessa: You helped me, too.

Sharon: You know, if Mariah were here right now, she’d probably crack a joke about the heavy-duty bonding we’re doing over how much we love her.

Mariah: [ Breathing heavily ] [ Groaning ] Ohh, that was — that was really strong for such a little guy. Which probably means that we’re gonna be meeting face to face pretty soon.
[ Exhales ] Which is good because, according to Mr. Clock over there, we’ve still got some time to kill.
[ Exhales ] Which gives the maniac who’s had us trapped in here for weeks now time to do the right thing. Take me to a hospital, please! You don’t want to be responsible if something goes horribly wrong, do you?
[ Breathing heavily ] Oh, don’t worry, don’t worry, Bowie. Just kidding. I was just trying to inflict some guilt. Everything’s gonna be fine. Everything’s gonna be fine.

Abby: I hate even thinking about Stitch this way.

Victor: So do I. God forbid, but listen, as a parent, you must consider all possibilities.

Abby: What, and be suspicious of everyone around me, even people close to me?

Victor: Sweetheart, you can’t pay attention to people’s feelings. You can’t worry about that, not when it comes to the security of your child.

Mariah (talking to the baby): Ohh. Okay. I got to talk to you now, alright? I didn’t think that any of this would happen. When this all started out, I was trying to help Abby and Chance. Then after I got pregnant, the morning sickness — oh, god. [Laughs] I don’t know what it was, dude, about the smell of my shampoo or peaches. But you made my life miserable for a little while, you know that? And I was really worried that this was gonna be really difficult [Panting] Until you were born. And after I got trapped in here, I just… I started to see things completely differently. [Exhales shakily] You kept me sane. Mm! And I really hope I did the same for you. So I want to let you know now — okay — that you are loved. Yeah. You are, so much. And I promise you, I don’t throw around that term lightly. Not like other people do. You don’t know this, but I didn’t grow up with a lot of love, so…I was pretty bad at it. And even now, there’s only a handful of people that I truly love in this world. You’re one of them, okay? And you’re gonna be fine. Gonna be fine. Because I protect the people I love with my life.

Rey: Devon, will you call mariah’s cellphone again?

Devon: Absolutely.

[ Cellphone rings ] There it is. That’s her damn case. That’s it.

Rey: Wow.

Victor: So stitch is the one who kidnapped mariah.

Devon: That’s right. Can you believe how crazy he is? He’s literally been pretending to be here for weeks now, texting us.

Victor: Yeah, as soon as he steps foot in the hotel, he’ll be arrested, right?

Rey: My number-one goal is to find mariah, but we still don’t know where she is.

Devon: You know what we need to do, guys? We need to call abby, ’cause she could be in danger right now.

Victor: I agree with you.

Abby: Please just tell me where they are. I promise I won’t hold it against you. I swear.

Stitch: Are you talking about mariah? Why would I know where she is?

[ Cellphone rings ] I can’t believe you even thought that, much less said it out loud. I’m gonna go.

Abby: No, no, no, no, please! Please you can’t leave like this. Stay, even if it’s only to tell me how wrong I am.

Tessa: [ Laughs ]

[ Cellphone chimes ] Is it abby?

Sharon: No, it’s rey.

Tessa: What does the text say?

Sharon: The police were able to break through the block on mariah’s phone. Wait, there’s more. He’s still texting. They tracked its location.

Tessa: To where?

Sharon: The grand phoenix.

Tessa: Okay, what does that mean, that she’s still in town? That’s where the kidnapper’s keeping her?

[ Cellphone chimes ] Could she be that close by?

Sharon: Hold on, there’s more. They found mariah’s phone in stitch’s room.

Mariah: [ Breathing heavily ]

[ Groaning ] Ohh, that was — that was really strong for such a little guy. Which probably means that we’re gonna be meeting face to face pretty soon.

[ Exhales ] Which is good because, according to mr. Clock over there, we’ve still got some time to kill.

[ Exhales ] Which gives the maniac who’s had us trapped in her for weeks now time to do the right thing.

[ Breathing heavily ] What was with all the prenatal vitamins and the protein bars if you were just gonna abandon us now? Ohh. Maybe — maybe they went to call somebody. Maybe they went to get help. Somebody’ll be here any minute. Maybe they went to go get diapers or something, I don’t know. They know that we’re in labor. Somebody’s gonna be here any minute. Right? You can’t just abandon us now. They wouldn’t leave us to do this all alone, would they? Somebody can’t be that cruel, right? A lot of people think dealing with copd

Stitch: This is unreal. You — you just told me what a good friend I’ve been.

Abby: You have.

Stitch: I’ve done my best to be there for you.

Abby: And I just want you to know how much I appreciate everything that you’ve done.

Stitch: Then how could you accuse me of doing something so horrible?

Abby: I’m just worried. I’m just worried about my friend and my baby. I just — I want to find them.

Stitch: And I want to help you do that.

Abby: For the sake of the baby that we lost.

Stitch: Uh —

Abby: Ben, I want to help you, too. I know — I know you have been through hell. You have lost so much.

Stitch: I — I shouldn’t have said anything, alright? That was stupid for me to admit that.

Abby: I’m glad that you did. It’s so hard to admit something like that. There’s nothing to be ashamed of. Everyone goes through a hard time.

Stitch: I didn’t expect for you to take it the way you did, okay? You’re jumping to the wrong conclusion.

Abby: I’m sorry if I did that.

Stitch: If? After everything I just said, you’re still wondering if I had anything to do with mariah’s disappearance?

Abby: I mean, can’t you understand why I would — i would have some pause? Mariah went missing right after you came back to town. And you said you had that position at memorial when you really didn’T. And you were telling me about that little notebook — mariah’s notebook with the storks on it.

Stitch: No, no, that was — that was someone else. That was the older guy in the store. Okay, he — he’s the one who had that paper.

Abby: I’m sorry. I don’t know if I believe your story anymore.

[ Sniffles ] I think you were just trying to tell me those things because you saw me falling apart, and then you added — you added the notebook because it was more convincing. You made me believe we were on the right track, and I believed it for a minute, but then when i stepped back and I looked at the whole picture…

[ Cellphone rings ]

Stitch: It’s devon. I… I asked him to stay in touch. Wait. Does he think I did this, too?

Rey: That’s right, and an apb. If anybody sees him or gets any credible leads, I want to be the first to know.

Victor: I will let you know of any further developments, okay? And by the way, do me a favor, I’ve been trying to get ahold of abby. I wasn’t able to, so give her a call, okay?

Devon: I just got his voicemail again.

Rey: Alright, you know what to say.

Devon: Hey, stitch. This is devon hamilton. I was just calling ’cause i wanted to run some ideas by you on how we could help abby. Give me a call when you get a chance. I’d really appreciate it. Alright. That guy’s not gonna call me back. Even though he told me to reach out to him if she needs any help, but I don’t believe a damn word he says.

Rey: Do either one of you know why stitch would kidnap mariah? I mean, was it about abby’s baby? Or does it have to do with taking revenge on abby, maybe because of the divorce? Or is he in love with abby? Is he jealous?

Victor: I think the latter is the case. I really do. If it had been up to stitch, he would have had a life with abby now, if it hadn’t have been for his son.

Rey: Right. Stitch’s son is the one who caused the accident that resulted in abby’s miscarriage.

Devon: Yeah, except it wasn’t an accident. He did it on purpose.

Victor: You know that, right? Apparently, the son placed a tripwire on the stairs in the athletic club. Abby had her shower. When she was descending the stairs, she tripped over the damn wire and fell. Lost the baby. It apparently was so bad that she can now not carry a baby to term because of the scar tissue.

Rey: Wow. That must have been devastating for both of them. That’s what led to the divorce?

Victor: I have a feeling it contributed to it, yeah.

Rey: Is there anything else you can tell me about them?

Devon: I mean, just that, you know, he showed up out of nowhere and started spending a lot of time with abby, trying to be really supportive and, you know, super helpful.

Rey: Right, he shared that story about finding the alleged kidnapper in the convenience store.

Devon: Yeah.

Rey: And seemed super excited when that tip would have been the turning point for the case.

Victor: Well, he probably thought that he would earn her undying gratitude.

Rey: Yeah. I’ve seen this dynamic in other criminal cases. You read a lot about it in arson investigations.

Devon: Like when a firefighter will start the fire so he can show up and save the day?

Rey: Exactly. Now, the bright side is, if this is the case, then there’s a decent chance that stitch is taking good care of mariah. He’s got to be the good guy here, and his story has to have a happy ending brought out by his own heroics.

Victor: You know, the hardest thing for me is to put around the fact that stitch is involved in this. I mean, I respected the guy. Used to spar with him. He’s a great guy. What the hell happened to him? Obviously, became totally unhinged. To do this? Who the hell knows what he’s up to now? Feeling stressed in your skin?

Abby: Mariah’s friends are just worried about her because she’s so kind and caring. I mean, look what she’s doing for me. She’s carrying my baby, and that’s — that’s just one example.

Stitch: People want to do nice things for you, abby. They gravitate towards you. You’re a light in a very dark world.

Abby: And your world has been dark lately?

Stitch: I didn’t mean to bring that up.

Abby: No, please. Ben, just — just talk to me. I mean, you said you came here for redemption.

Stitch: I don’t think I can explain it to you. You’re anchored here. Genoa city, it — it’s in your blood.

Abby: Yeah, it’s my home.

Stitch: To me, it’s something else. Represents a time in my life when I still had hope. At first, when I came back, i just — I just wanted to remember that feeling. I had lived so long without it, you know?

Abby: [ Sniffles ]

Stitch: Like nothing good would ever happen for me. And then…I wanted to feel hopeful again. Like anything was possible. I needed to find a way back to my past.

Abby: Your past with me.

Stitch: I know I don’t have any right to expect that. To expect that from you. I was…lucky to share a life with you once. It was magic, but I didn’t — I didn’t protect you. I didn’t protect you and i couldn’t hold onto it.

Abby: Stop, okay? Just stop. What happened between us, it wasn’t your fault. And if I ever said that, I am so sorry. I didn’t mean that. That was just my pain and my grief talking.

Stitch: Maybe you get it, then. Because that’S… that’s what I’m going through right now. The pain. I’m out of my head.

Tessa: Why don’t you just give rey a call and see what the latest is, if there’s been any progress?

Sharon: [ Sighs ] You know I want to, but rey said for us to just sit tight. He will call as soon as he knows anything more. He knows how anxious we are.

Tessa: The waiting is killing me. We still don’t know where mariah is. She could be just around the corner. If it really was stitch —

Sharon: I’m really having a hard time believing that it was. I’ve known this man for years. I mean, he was dylan’s best friend. And the man that I knew would never be involved in anything like this, so I just don’t want to jump to conclusions right now. Maybe mariah’s phone was planted in his room.

Tessa: What I can’t get out of my mind — he was there. When we talked about mariah, when we shared how worried we were, wondered who might have her. He was listening to our deepest fears. He was there. When we talked about tricking the kidnapper into thinking that we thought that she was just taking a break.

Sharon: Yeah, he was. But that still doesn’t prove anything.

Tessa: Don’t you see? If stitch is the kidnapper, he was always one step ahead of us because he — we told him exactly what we were gonna do.

Victor: Yes, you do the same. Okay.

Rey: Victor, I’m gonna have to head out, too, so please don’t try to be a hero. If your team finds stitch first, I want to be the first to know. Okay, I don’t need you taking the law into your own hands.

Victor: Rey, the same goes for you, alright? If the gcpd should find out where the bloody bastard is, you let me know right away. Is that clear?

Rey: Yes, I promise I will keep you posted.

Victor: Thank you.

Rey: Okay.

Devon: Okay, so, hey, my pi denise just found something out. Stitch wasn’t in iowa city when he said he was.

Rey: So that probably means that stitch never left town. He might be doing this all on his own, taking care of mariah all by himself. You know what I’m gonna do?

Devon: Hmm.

Rey: I am gonna run a check on his credit cards, see if we can find a pattern. We can see where he goes, shops, what he buys. Could be a pretty damn good place to start looking for her.

Devon: Okay.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Rey: Yeah, kevin? Really? You sure? Okay, thank you, man. Yeah, yeah, I owe you.

Devon: What’d he say?

Rey: Kevin was able to retrieve a glitch-free version of the security footage from the convenience store that stitch said he went to. And it doesn’t line up with the story that stitch tried to sell us.

Devon: Oh, I bet it doesn’T. Let me guess, there was no old man buying protein bars, right?

Rey: Bingo.

Devon: My question is, why would stitch go through the trouble of making up something like that, knowing that we’re gonna look into it and you’re gonna investigate?

Rey: You know what? We were lucky enough to find footage in the first place. Most store would’ve recorded over the footage by now. The fact of the matter is, is that stitch lied again, and all the evidence is pointing directly at him.

Devon: Right, but it’s not pointing to where he is or where he’s keeping mariah.

Mariah: Okay, bowie. I got to talk to you before things get challenging. And by “challenging,” I mean off-the-charts painful.

[ Exhales sharply ] It doesn’t look like there’s gonna be much of a welcome wagon for you, okay? It’s just gonna be me. But that’s okay, alright? It’s fine. Women have been doing this do-it-yourself childbirth for thousands of years. Way before there were doctors or hospitals.

[ Sniffles ] Ohh. Oh!

[ Groaning ] Back when all you had were just friends. Or your mom.

[ Sniffles ] Or someone who really loved you to help you face this incredibly scary thing.

[ Groans ] Okay, I’m not gonna think about that now. Oh! Not gonna think about that now.

[ Sighs ] We have towels. We have hot water. I don’t — I don’t really know what that’s for, but they’re always saying “boil hot water” in the movies, so there it is. I’m as ready as I can be. Oh, god. Okay, another contraction any second.

[ Groaning ] Please help us. Please.

[ Sniffles ] If anybody’s listening, please help. Oh!

[ Groaning ] Ohh! Ahh! Ahh!

[ Groaning ]

Feel the cool rush of

claritin cool mint chewables.

Abby: Ben, I am — I am so sorry that you’ve been so unhappy. I can’t imagine what that must feel like. To feel like things are never gonna get better, I mean, that would drive anyone to do desperate things.

Stitch: Unforgivable things.

Abby: No. No, that’s not true. I would never judge you. And I don’t want anything bad to happen to you. You would never hurt anyone.

Stitch: Because you know me. The real me.

Abby: Yeah, just like you know me. And you knew every time I was upset about mariah, you would — you would come — you would come for me. And you would say everything’s gonna be alright, and you know what? You made me believe that. But that’s because you had a different view. Because you knew mariah was fine. And you knew she was gonna come home. That was your plan, right?

Stitch: Yeah.

Abby: You know what? Um… I — I think this is good. I think this is good that this is all coming out.

Stitch: I didn’t mean for it to get this far.

Abby: I know. But you know what? Look, I can — I can help you.

Stitch: I was — I was go– I was gonna let her go.

Abby: Yeah, I believe you. But I think it’s better for that to happen sooner instead of later.

Stitch: What was I thinking? I screwed all this up. I was just trying to bring us closer together. I needed a — I don’t know what I needed. A lifeline.

Abby: Yeah. And I can — I can be that for you. But first, we just have to clean up this whole mess.

Stitch: We can’T.

Abby: Yes, we can. Step by step, okay? And the first step is making sure that mariah and the baby are okay. Will you take me to them?

Rey: I got to call sharon.

Devon: Alright, I’m gonna try and get ahold of abby again.

Rey: Okay. Hey, sharon. Hey, yeah. Have you been in touch with abby lately?

Abby: No. I haven’t heard from her in hours. Is there any news about stitch? Do we know why mariah’s phone was found in his room?

Rey: I am now convinced that stitch was involved with mariah’s disappearance. He lied about being in iowa, and he lied about seeing someone suspicious in the convenience store.

Sharon: Are you sure about that?

Tessa: Sure about what?

Sharon: They think stitch kidnapped mariah.

Rey: I saw all the footage for myself. There was no older man buying protein bars. He made the whole thing up.

Sharon: Do you know where stitch is right now?

Rey: No, and he doesn’t know that he’s our person of interest, but I put out an apb.

Sharon: Okay. What do we do if we see him?

Rey: Nothing. Do not confront him. Do not attempt to handle this on your own. You call me, you hear me?

Sharon: We will.

Devon: Hey, yo, yo, denise just found out something.

Rey: Alright, sharon. Listen, I got to go, but I’ll be in touch as soon as I can. Just know we’re getting close, okay? Love you. Yeah.

Devon: She said there’s a house in town that was rented two months ago to ben russell.

Rey: Russell?

Devon: According to denise, that’s his birth name.

Rey: We got an address?

Devon: 787 willow lane.

Rey: Willow lane? That’s the same street that stitch said the convenience store was on.

Devon: That’s right. Let’s go.

[ Knock on door ]

Victor: Abby? It’s your dad. Abby? Abby? Abby?

[ Cellphone rings ] Yes, rey? Well, one second. I am at abby’s right now. I just knocked on the door, and no answer. I walked in, still no answer. The door was unlocked. Right. Then I found her phone. Well, she obviously left it behind. Willow lane? Well, I certainly you’ll find mariah there. What about stitch?

Abby: Mariah, oh, my god! You’re in labor! Come here! I’ve got big news!

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Abby: It’s okay. I am here, and everything is gonna be just fine. Um, how are you doing, aside from the obvious?

Mariah: Are you real?

Abby: I don’t understand.

Mariah: I’ve been — I’ve been having so many dreams of people coming — coming to rescue me, like — like tessa. I just — am I making you up?

Abby: No, no, no. I — I am very, very real.

Mariah: Oh, my god. Oh, my god, you’re really here. Oh, my god.

Abby: And I am not going anywhere without you.

Mariah: I was so scared.

Abby: So were we. So were we.

Mariah: I thought you guys would never find me. I thought I was gonna have to do this all alone.

Abby: No, it’s —

Mariah: We need — we need to get to the hospital. I think there’s still time, okay?

Abby: Wait, wait, wait, it’s okay, it’s okay. I, um — I brought a, uh —

Mariah: A what?

Abby: I, um — I brought my car. I brought my car. I brought my car, so, um, yeah, I’m gonna take you to the hospital, and everything is gonna be fine.

Sharon: I can’t believe that it was stitch. I mean, I can’t imagine him doing anything so vicious. What could have happened to this man in the last few years to make him change so drastically?

Tessa: I mean, whatever it is, it’s nothing compared to what I’ll do if I get ahold of him. He snatched mariah out of our lives and locked her away somewhere. She’s spent how many days terrified and alone? Meanwhile, he tried to convince us nothing was wrong by sending those phony texts. And he watched us as we grew more and more scared, when we realized that she was being held against her will. Was that fun for him? Did he get a sick thrill out of it?

Sharon: I don’t have any answers. I can’t explain this. I just know I’m hoping that when they do find him, he’ll tell us where mariah is. And rey said he’s getting close.

Tessa: I just wish that we knew more so we could aid in the search. Did rey reach abby already?

Sharon: No, he said he can’t get ahold of her. Maybe I should try.

Abby: Alright, how you doing?

Mariah: Now that I know you’re real and I’m on my way to the hospital, I feel like a million bucks.

Devon: Mariah!

Abby: We’re in here.

Devon: Oh, my god. Been scared to death. Are you alright?

Mariah: I’m so glad to see you.

Devon: I’m glad to see you, too. Abby, how’d you get here?

Abby: It’s a long story. I’ll have to explain on the way to the hospital ’cause mariah is in labor.

Devon: You’re in labor right now?

Abby: Yeah.

Devon: Where the hell is —

Abby: He brought me here, and now he’s gone, and I don’t know where he is. My one priority is mariah right now.

Devon: Alright, I understand.

Rey: House is clear. No one else is here.

Devon: Well, he couldn’t have gotten that far, so keep looking for him. I’ll stay with them. I got this.

Rey: Mariah, sharon and tessa are gonna be so relieved that you’re okay.

Mariah: I miss them so much.

Abby: Okay, come on, mariah. We’ll have to see sharon and tessa when we get to the hospital.

Mariah: [ Groaning ]

Abby: Got it? Got it?

Mariah: Oh. No, no, no!

Devon: Alright?

Mariah: Ahh!

Abby: Another contraction? Wait, wait, that’s very close to the last set of contractions that she just had.

Mariah: They’re getting shorter.

[ Breathing heavily ]

Devon: We’re still okay, though, right? I mean, the first child always takes longer. I heard that from somewhere.

Mariah: I can feel it. I’m not gonna make it to the hospital. The baby is coming now.

[ Groaning ] After my dvt blood clot…

[ Cellphone rings ]

Sharon: It’s rey. Rey. Yeah? You did? Thank you! Thank you so much.

Tessa: What? Tell me something.

Sharon: They found mariah, and she’s safe and abby’s with her.

Tessa: I want to see her. I need to see her.

Sharon: Tessa, hold on, hold on. What? Right now? Which hospital?

Tessa: What?

Sharon: Alright, be careful. I love you.

[ Gasps ] Mariah’s in labor. She’s having the baby right now. Abby’s taking her to memorial and rey is out searching for stitch.

Tessa: What are we waiting for? Let’s go.

Sharon: Okay. No, I told rey that I would call victor first.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Victor: Yes, sharon?

Sharon: Mariah and abby have been found, and they’re safe.

Victor: What about the baby?

Sharon: I hope you’re ready to be a grandfather.

Victor: Are you serious? Oh, my goodness.

Abby: How you doing?

Mariah: [ Groaning ] I feel like I’m having a baby.

Abby: Well, good, because that is exactly what we’re doing.

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Mariah: [ Exhales sharply ] What if the emts don’t get here in time?

Abby: You know what? I, um — I have read all of the books and I watched all kinds of videos. I am — I’m very prepared.

Mariah: What does it say i should do?

Abby: Just try to relax.

Mariah: Okay.

Devon: That’s right. Try to relax and also try not to push. Okay, and listen to what nate has to say. I got him on the phone to help out.

Mariah: Hi, nate. I really wish you were here right now.

Nate: Hey, I will see you as soon as the emts get you and the baby to the hospital, okay?

Abby: And until then, your body knows exactly what to do. This is gonna go beautifully.

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Mariah: I like your confidence. Oh. Ohh!

Devon: It’s okay.

Mariah: Ow, ow! Oh, this really hurts.

Devon: It’s okay.

Mariah: Ahh!

Devon: Hey, nate, what should I do, man?

Nate: Alright, breathe with her, like this.

[ Inhales deeply ]

[ Exhales deeply ]

Devon: Okay, alright. Hey, you hear me? We got to breathe. Got to breathe. In through your nose.

[ Inhales deeply ] Out through your mouth.

Mariah: [ Exhales sharply ]

Devon: Do it again, do it again.

Mariah: [ Exhales sharply ]

Devon: There you go. You got it.

Mariah: [ Whimpers ]

Devon: Keep doing it. Keep doing it.

Mariah: Ahh.

Devon: You got this. Hey, I am in awe of you and how well you’ve taken care of yourself and this baby through this whole ordeal, mariah. Okay? You’re amazing. Okay, let’s bring this little guy into the world. I know it’s not how we planned, but it’s gonna be just fine.

Abby: In all of my fantasies about how this would go —

Mariah: I hope this doesn’t look anything like it.

[ Exhales sharply ]

Abby: No, but in every single one of them, I was just thanking god for you. You are my best friend and my cheerleader and you are this baby’s fierce protector. And I am forever grateful for you.

Mariah: I think he’s gonna be a cool little dude.

Devon: Oh, I guarantee he will be. And I can’t wait to meet him.

Mariah: Ahhh. I think that’s — that’s gonna be sooner than you think. I feel like I need to push.

Devon: You do?

Mariah: Yeah.

Devon: Okay.

Mariah: Yeah.

Devon: Um…

Nate: Okay, it’s time.

Mariah: Okay.

[ Exhales sharply ] Okay, I’m ready.

Abby: Alright, this is the moment we’ve all been waiting for.

Devon: That’s right. Keep breathing, keep breathing.

Mariah: Ahhhh! Ahh! Mm!

Devon: You got it, you got it.

Mariah: Ahh!

Abby: You’re doing good, mariah. You’re doing really good.

Mariah: Ahhh!

Devon: You got it.

Abby: You’re doing so good, mariah. Doing great.

Nate: Dig down deep. You’ve got this.

Devon: You’re doing it. You’re doing it. You really are. Just breathe, okay? Just breathe.

Abby: Oh, my god. [ Laughs ]

Devon: What is it? What is it?

Abby: I can see his head.

Devon: Yeah?

Mariah: What does he look like?

Abby: He’s beautiful. He’s so beautiful.

Devon: Just keep going. Keep breathing. You can do it.

Nate: Alright, mariah, listen, you’re doing great. Now, when you’re ready, give me one more big push.

Abby: Mariah, are you ready? You got this.

Devon: You got this, you got this.

Mariah: [ Whimpers ] Ahhh!

Devon: You got it.

Mariah: Mm! Ahh! Ahhh!

Abby: [ Laughs ] Oh, my god.

Devon: Good job.

Abby: He’s here. He’s here. Mariah, you did it.

[ Laughs ]

Devon: Good job, good job.

Kids can change minds.

Mariah: How does he look?

Abby: Oh, he’s perfect.

[ Chuckles ] He has the cutest little fingernails.

Devon: Gosh, and the rest of him is just as adorable.

Mariah: Nate, why hasn’t he — he cried? Are his lungs mature enough?

Nate: Okay, you need to clear his airway. Make sure there’s no fluid in his nostrils.

Abby: Can I just use my finger?

Nate: Yeah, don’t be afraid. Just be gentle.

Abby: Come on, baby. Come on.

[ Baby crying ]

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Abby: [ Laughs ]

Devon: Listen to the pipes on this kid.

[ Laughs ]

Abby: [ Laughs ]

Mariah: He’s a champion breather. Thanks, nate.

Abby: That’s the sweetest sound I’ve ever heard.

[ Laughs ]

Devon: Oh, my goodness. Mm. There you go.

[ Baby stops crying ]

Mariah: Devon’s got the magic touch.

Nate: Man’s a secret baby whisperer.

[ Sirens wailing in distance ]

Mariah: Is that an ambulance I hear or is that just a hallucination?

Abby: Oh, no, I hear it, too.

Mariah: Oh, thank god they’re here, even though they are a little late.

Devon: It’s just your welcome wagon. Pretty soon everyone’s gonna come in here and make sure you’re okay. They just want to make sure you’re happy and healthy.

Abby: You did it.

Mariah: We did it. Oh, thank god he’s okay.

Abby: Happy birthday, baby chancellor.

Devon: [ Chuckles ] Welcome to the world, little man.

[ All chuckle ]

Next week on

“the young and the restless”…

Nick: If I wasn’t in the picture, would you be tempted to get back together with jack?

Ashland: Give me a second.

Nate: Are you sure? Are you really okay?

Adam: So I was thinking that you might like to accompany me to the party to celebrate the official launch of newman media tomorrow.

Sally: We’ll see.

Mariah: Please, you can’t do this to us. You have to help us. Alright? You — you’ve taken care of us, you’ve given us food and prenatal vitamins and protein bars. The contractions aren’t stopping, so, please, for the love of god, save this baby. Please.

Victor: I assure you that my security will get to the bottom of this. We are working with the police department.

Abby: Thank you, dad. I appreciate everything that you’re doing.

Victor: [ Sighs ]

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Victor: What is it?

Abby: Just I’m a little shaken up. Devon had some thoughts — well, suspicions, really — and, well, at first, my instinct was that there’s no way that that was possible, but now…I don’t know what to believe.

Denise: I’m sorry, devon. I wasn’t able to uncover anything new about mariah copeland’s disappearance.

Devon: Abby’s ex-husband saw an old man who was stocking up on mariah’s favorite prenatal protein bars.

Denise: Okay. Not much there.

Devon: Yeah.

Denise: Did you get a description of the guy?

Devon: Just average height, gray hair, and his shopping list was written on the same kind of paper as mariah’s notepad — has storks on it.

Denise: Hmm. I could follow up on it, but I’m sensing some skepticism on your part.

Devon: This information may lead to something. I just don’t think it’s gonna be to some random old man.

Denise: What are you thinking?

Devon: I’m more concerned about abby’s ex.

Kevin: There’s stitch right there. He’s about to enter the store.

Rey: Alright, do we see the older man he told us about?

Kevin: No, there’s another customer, but she is not who we’re looking for.

Rey: Can we see from any other angles?

Kevin: Uh, let me mark the timecode and see what else is available.

Rey: Let’s see if we can find someone purchasing a bunch of those protein bars.

Kevin: Yeah. No, there’s no one else in the store. It’s stitch, there’s a lady at the frozen foods, and the cashier, but that’s it.

Rey: Well, maybe our guy hasn’t entered yet.

Kevin: Uh…let me pull up and see if there’s a camera at the entrance and maybe just hasn’t come in yet.

Rey: What the hell, kevin? What happened to the footage?

Kevin: I don’t know. It disappeared.

Sharon: Being in mariah’s room and being there with all her things, it was a little overwhelming.

Tessa: I’m a little overwhelmed, too. But you’re a really positive person, sharon.

Sharon: I’m trying — I’m trying to be optimistic. Praying that rey will find mariah and bring her home. It’s just — it’s not easy.

Tessa: Just need to keep trying and send positive energy her way. My disposition’s a little darker than yours, so I have to send out twice as much positive energy to compensate.

Sharon: Yeah, is that right? Is that how that works? You figured it out?

Tessa: Yeah, yeah, yeah, i did. And we just need to visualize her coming back to us healthy, safe, and strong. And we need to take it seriously because mariah has to get through this.

Mariah: [ Gasps ]

[ Groaning ]

[ Exhales sharply ] The contractions are getting stronger. We need help, please. Please hurry. Ohh, ohh. Okay. Okay. Birthing class did not cover this scenario.

[ Groaning ] Abducted, alone, god knows where. About to give birth with no doctor, no medical care.

[ Groaning ] Okay, okay. I hear you. I hear you, little man. Mm. You want out. I got it. But just, please, just relax, okay? Good. Good job.

[ Groaning ]

[ Grunting ] Ahh.

[Girl in bathroom stall] Ugh

Tessa: I was alone in the house, just talking to mariah. I was just telling her how much I missed her and that I was gonna do anything to find her. It’s like we were communicating, and she was telling me that she was scared and that she missed me. I felt her presence because she needed spiritual back-up. I don’t have money, like devon, to hire investigators or the power of two prominent families like abby, so I feel like I’m just sitting on the sidelines. All I can do is use my love to send mariah strength and comfort. To let her know that we care about her and we’re doing anything we can to bring her home.

Sharon: It can’t hurt.

Tessa: You love her, so you can do it, too.

Sharon: How?

Tessa: I think we should remember important moments with mariah, special times, to let her know and reassure her that we love her and that we miss her.

Sharon: Well, I’ll be honest, I’m not sure I have as much faith in this psychic connection as you do, but I want to try.

Tessa: You can do it, too. You just have to — I don’t know — concentrate on a memory.

Sharon: Um, when I first found out that mariah was my daughter, she barely wanted anything to do with me at first. We grew closer over time, but there was always this awkwardness and uncertainty in our relationship. Until this one christmas… she, uh — she was obsessing over what gift to give me, and in the end, she gave me the perfect gift. She started calling me mom.

Tessa: I remember her telling me that story.

Sharon: What special moments with mariah are you thinking about?

Tessa: [ Chuckles ] You know, I — I keep coming back to when things were really bad between us. And [Laughs] She just showed up to my concert and gave an extremely public apology.

Sharon: I saw the video.

Tessa: Yeah, and the rest of the world.

[ Laughs ] It took guts for mariah to bare her soul like that. And it’s those same guts that are gonna bring her home to us again.

Sharon: She’s always been a fighter.

Tessa: She never gave up on me, even when I pushed her away. She believed in the power of our love. Now I’m returning the favor.

Sharon: I wish I had shared more special moments with mariah, but unfortunately, um, we missed out on a lot of each other’s lives before we were reunited. And finding her, having her in my life after all those years was such a great gift. You know, I had to really try to convince mariah that she was loved. It took a lot before she believed it.

Tessa: Well, she knows that you love her now.

Sharon: I hope so. I hope so. I hope she can feel it right now.

Rey: So the footage cut out before our suspect might have walked through the door.

Kevin: It looks that way. But the app didn’t crash and the camera is on, but the footage is gone. But look, look at the timecode. There’s a gap between where we left off and where we are. It’s a minute and 37 seconds.

Rey: Was it a glitch, a problem with the camera?

Kevin: I can’t tell you, but maybe our old man entered during the gap.

Rey: Well, is it possible someone altered the video in case they were trying to hide something?

Kevin: Uh…I would have to do a deeper analysis using equipment at the station, but let’s — let’s — let’s look at what we have in front of us, okay? There’s stitch. And there he is — that’s the guy he described.

Rey: His description was vague, but that is an older man. Can we get a better look at him?

Kevin: Uh…I can try. This footage is not great. The angle is weird.

Rey: Can you get a look at what he’s buying?

Kevin: His cart is empty. But wait, look at stitch.

Rey: He’s at the register checking out already.

Kevin: H– how could he have seen what the old man was buying?

Rey: He’s leaving. There’s no way he got a good look at the guy’s shopping list.

Kevin: And he’s gone. Okay, you know what? Maybe we can check the footage from a few days before and a few days after. Stitch could go to that store a lot. Maybe he just got his days mixed up.

Rey: Or maybe stitch made the whole thing up.

Victor: Devon thinks that stitch may have something to do with mariah’s disappearance.

Abby: Well, he thinks it could be possible. And honestly, I don’t know what to believe. Stitch has been so helpful. He’s been a shoulder for me to lean on. He’s really been a godsend. He’s a great listener.

Victor: This is all so strange, but…wow. I understand that he’s a comfort to you.

Abby: There have been a couple times when I thought maybe he was trying to rekindle what we once had. Maybe he was exaggerating the prospect of the chief of surgery job at the hospital as an excuse to move back here. I mean, separately, it doesn’t seem that out of the ordinary, but when you look at it as a whole, I mean, is devon right to be wary?

Victor: Wait a minute. I remember when stitch first came back into town. After a few greetings and all that, he said, um, something that puzzled me. He was very concerned about you being alone, with chance not being in town. And I remember I felt compelled to remind him that you are happily married.

Abby: You never told me that.

Victor: Well, I didn’t because I didn’t want to upset you.

Abby: I guess the timing of all of it is kind of weird. I mean, stitch came back to town again right before mariah went missing.

Victor: So what are you saying?

Abby: I used to be married to the man. I used to love him. But could it be true? Could stitch have something to do with mariah’s disappearance?

Devon: And so stitch just randomly shows back up in town out of nowhere and starts finding reasons to run into abby and spend time with her and casually bringing up romantic stories from their past.

Denise: Well, that’s all a little creepy — not a crime. But the thing you told me about the job at the hospital, now, that is a big red flag.

Devon: Yeah, I — I agree with you because he claims to be moving back here to take the position of chief of surgery, but he didn’t get that position. My cousin nate got the position.

Denise: So you don’t trust him.

Devon: I would like to, but there’s some things that aren’t adding up. And abby seems to trust him. She’s found a lot of comfort in having him around. She’s going through a stressful time, it’s understandable she wants to have somebody.

Denise: And there he is, a shoulder to cry on.

Devon: But like I said, i hope I’m wrong. I hope that stitch is just a supportive ex.

Denise: So let’s get some answers about this dr. Ben “stitch” rayburn. You know, one thing I’ve learned as a pi, never ignore gut feelings.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Victor: What do you know about what stitch was up to when he was away all these years?

Abby: Only what he’s told me. He was working as a doctor at a hospital in iowa city and max’s condition has deteriorated.

Victor: [ Exhales sharply ] I mean, what would be his motive? Why would he do something like this?

Abby: I don’t know. And honestly, it makes me feel better, because if I can’t think of a reason, then he’s less likely to be behind it, right?

Victor: Yeah.

Abby: I don’t know. I mean, I don’t think it’s about money. Unless max’s condition caused him to go into debt, but, no, there hasn’t been a ransom demand. And if he needed the money, he just could’ve — could’ve come to me, he could’ve asked me for it, and I would’ve given it to him, regardless of what max did to me.

Victor: If it’s not money, then what? Could it be revenge?

Abby: For what?

Victor: For leaving him.

Abby: No, no, I mean, I — i have spent so much time with him recently. I would’ve picked up on that.

Victor: How much time did you spend with him?

Abby: When you count all of the visits, I — a few hours. Oh, my god. If stitch is behind this, does that mean mariah was locked up all of that time? Was there someone there watching her, making sure that she and the baby had everything they need? Or was mariah just there, alone and terrified?

Mariah: Ohh. Okay. I got to talk to you now, alright? I didn’t think that any of this would happen. When this all started out, I was trying to help abby and chance. Then after I got pregnant, the morning sickness — oh, god.

[ Laughs ] I don’t know what it was, dude, about the smell of my shampoo or peaches. But you made my life miserable for a little while, you know that? And I was really worried that this was gonna be really difficult [Panting] Until you were born. And after I got trapped in here, I just… I started to see things completely differently.

[ Exhales shakily ] You kept me sane. Now, we all know progressive offers 24/7 protection,

Kevin: Stitch is a stand-up guy. He’s a doctor, rey.

Rey: Sometimes doctors commit crimes.

Kevin: It doesn’t make any sense. If he is behind mariah’s disappearance, why would he suggest looking at evidence that could so easily be disproved? And why would he mess with the video? What would he gain from that?

Rey: He’s sending us on a wild goose chase, keeping us busy and distracted from what’s really going on, so let’s not waste time.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Kevin: Finally. The it team was able to get through the encryption on mariah’s phone. We have a location.

Rey: Oh, good.

Tessa: It’s a miracle that mariah and I are still together. We’ve both made so many mistakes.

Sharon: Well, that’s all in the past, and right now we’re focusing on the present. You are very much a part of mariah’s life, and I am so happy about that.

Tessa: I appreciate it. I know that I gave you a million reasons for you to want me to stay away from her. I’m still ashamed of some of the things that I did.

Sharon: You’ve grown past that. You’ve moved so far beyond it.

Tessa: Mariah deserves a lot of credit. She’s the one that helped me understand and accept my past.

Sharon: You two helped each other. You’ve evolved together.

Tessa: No, I think you’re right. Mariah’s taught me so much about love and trust and forgiveness. But I can tell you that whoever is holding her captive, whoever is scaring her, I will never forgive them. And I hope that they get what’s coming to them.

Victor: Hi, devon.

Devon: Mr. Newman, hi.

Victor: I understand you’re concerned about stitch’s behavior.

Abby: I had to tell my dad about your suspicions because i can’t stop thinking about them, and I can no longer the possibility that you might be right.

Devon: Well, I mean, listen, I hope that I’m wrong about stitch ’cause he’s always seemed like a decent guy to me and i know he’s been supportive of you. I don’t want to cause you any more stress.

Victor: We got to find the truth.

Devon: I completely agree. I just spoke to my private investigator, and she thinks that he should definitely be looked into. She’s, in fact, switching all of her focus onto him.

Abby: I wish that wasn’t necessary, but we have to do what’s best.

Victor: Sure. Without consideration of other people’s feelings, I think we should get to the bottom of it. Alright?

Devon: Yeah.

Abby: Okay. Let’s do this.

Mariah: [ Groaning ] Ahhh. Okay. Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay. God. Okay. Okay. These are not braxton hicks contractions. Bowie, I really wish you’d take my advice and stay inside. But if you want out, I can’t blame you. Okay.

[ Breathing heavily ] Okay.

[ Whimpering ]

[ Breathing heavily ] If you want today to be your birthday, you’ve got it.

[ Breathing heavily ] So I need to prepare. But how? Before treating your chronic migraine,

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Victor: I think we should confront stitch directly.

Abby: I’m not sure that’s a good idea.

Devon: I’m gonna have to agree with him. We need to get answers fast. And even if he doesn’t know anything, I’m sure he’s — he’ll understand why we had to consider him, ’cause we’re desperate right now.

Victor: If devon’s suspicions are correct, then time is of the essence, okay? Could make all the difference in the world.

Devon: Absolutely. He’s staying at the grand phoenix, you know.

Abby: Okay, let’s go.

Victor: No, darling, I want you to stay.

Abby: If you’re gonna confront him, I should be there.

Victor: No, sweetheart, i don’t think so.

Devon: Yeah. I think that we’re gonna get a much more honest response out of him if you’re not in the room.

Victor: I promise you I will tell you everything that happens at the meeting, alright? Everything. Meanwhile, my darling, please be careful.

Abby: Okay.

[ Sighs ]

Mariah: [ Gasping ] Clean towels. Okay. We can do this, bowie. We can do this, okay? I just need to relax. Shh.

[ Humming ]

So we can handle all this

and more

’cause even things lost in the ocean need the shore

[ Inhales sharply ]

Even things lost in the ocean need the shore

[ Sighs ] Oh, god.

[ Sniffles ] Yeah. Oh, do you remember that? Ohh. That was tessa’s song.

[ Exhales sharply ] You remember, right?

[ Laughs ] Ohh. I know, I am — I’m butchering it [Chuckles] But she’s the singer, not me. Alright?

[ Grunts ]

[ Sighs ] I’m just — I’m just a fan. I’m her fan. God, I miss her so much.

[ Sobbing ] Oh. Ah. I miss her voice. And her sweetness. Just all of it. Oh. She’s probably finished her lullaby for you by now. I wish she was here to sing it to you.

[ Chuckles ] Can you imagine the party that they are gonna have when we get out of here?

[ Exhales sharply ] There’s gonna be so much music. It’s just gonna be a huge celebration. Oh, god. Oh, I’m dizzy. Oh, god, no, no, no, no.

[ Gasping ] Mm, I can’t pass out. I can’t pass out now. Bowie needs me. Bowie needs me.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Stitch: Hey. I got your text. Are you okay? Is there any news?

Abby: No, um, no news. Not since that important lead that you gave the police. I am just so thankful that you saw that man in the store.

Stitch: I wish I could’ve been more help. Maybe there’s a chance my lead could still pay off.

Abby: Well, you know, I’m not sure about anything anymore.

Stitch: I’m sorry.

Abby: The only thing I know is that I feel better when you’re around. (Asaad) since my mother got cancer from smoking,

Tessa: Oh, man. Well, we should get back to the house.

Sharon: Um, before we go, I’d like to say a prayer.

Tessa: I think that’s a beautiful idea.

Sharon: Join me? Dear god… please protect mariah and the baby.

Mariah: [ Groaning ]

Sharon: And give them the strength to get through this ordeal.

Mariah: [ Groaning ]

Sharon: And please give us the ability to find them. They are loved by so many of us.

Mariah: [ Breathing heavily ]

Tessa: Bring them home. Do that, and I will spend the rest of my life making sure that mariah is safe, loved, and happy. Amen.

Sharon: Amen.

Abby: And I just — I cannot believe that this is happening. My dad and devon were here earlier and they want to be helpful, but there is nothing that they can do. I mean, they can hire all of the private investigators and all of the security teams, but none of it matters unless mariah and the baby can come home, and the longer that this goes on, the more scared I get.

Stitch: It’s gonna be okay, abby. Okay? You have to believe that.

Abby: Tessa says that she can sense that something is really wrong with mariah. And I can sense something, too, because I can feel my baby crying for me. And his cries, they pierce my heart. And I don’t know where he is and I don’t know if mariah can take care of him. I don’t know if they even have enough food.

Stitch: I’m sure they do.

Abby: I have never been so scared because I can feel my baby, I can feel him crying for me, and there’s nothing I can do. I don’t even know where he is, and I would give up everything, I would give all of this up, i would pay whatever ransom if i could have them back, if I could get rid of this feeling of being helpless. And I am doing this all alone. Chance isn’t here.

Stitch: Hey. I’m here, abby. Whatever you need. Just tell me what to do.

Devon: Yes, thank you very much. I appreciate it. Okay, so my private investigator just poked another hole in stitch’s story.

Victor: And what’s that?

Devon: He doesn’t even have a job in iowa city. He was fired from it months ago. And that’s not what he told abby.

Victor: Whoa.

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Victor: So he could have used that as a cover to save face.

Devon: You don’t really believe that for a second, do you?

Victor: Detective, did you find anything?

Rey: Hey, yeah, did your team track mariah’s cellphone here, too?

Victor: That’s an important piece of the puzzle, isn’t it?

Rey: Yeah, unfortunately, we only know it’s here in the hotel somewhere, but we weren’t able to narrow it down to a floor or even a wing.

Devon: Well, we should check stitch’s room, right?

Victor: I agree. Let’s do it right now. Depression.

Rey: Stitch isn’t here.

Victor: Any sign of mariah’s phone?

Rey: I haven’t seen it.

Devon: Got to be here somewhere. Let’s call mariah and find out right now.

Victor: Yeah.

[ Cellphone rings ] So it was stitch all the time.

Abby: Um, I shouldn’t lean on you like this. It’s not fair to you.

Stitch: It’s — it’s okay. I want to help you through this.

Abby: I know, yeah, I can sense that. You know, even after all these years, there’s still something between us.

Stitch: I’ve always felt so connected to you.

Abby: Is that why you came back to town? To be with me? Was there ever really a job at the hospital or were you just saying that? Stitch, you being back here, back in town, back in my life, has been such a blessing. Look, and let me be that for you. You know, I can be — I can be your sounding board. You can tell me anything. Anything, and I won’t get angry.

Stitch: I can’t believe how understanding you are.

Abby: Stitch, I know you. And I can see it in your eyes.

Stitch: What?

Abby: Guilt. You feel bad for what happened when we were married. No, no, what happened with max, that was not your fault.

Stitch: No. I’m a doctor. I-I-I… I should’ve seen what was going on with my son. I should have known what he was capable of.

Abby: No. No, see, look, us losing the baby, that was not your fault. That was a painful time for the both of us. And I know how deeply you felt that loss. And I think that’s why you can feel what I’m going through right now because I am about to lose another baby.

Stitch: No, no, we — we won’t let that happen. Okay? I — I admit —

Abby: You admit what? You admit what?

Stitch: I came back here for you. My life has been so hard since I left. I just needed to make things right. I was hoping for some kind of redemption. It was crazy, but I truly believe that you’re the only one who can put me back on course. You can make things right, abby.

Abby: No, we can make things right for each other. All is forgiven. Just please…please tell me where they are.

Mariah: [ Gasping ] Okay, kid.

[ Gasps ]

[ Breathing heavily ] It’s your time to come out now, isn’t it? This is gonna happen right now.

[ Whimpers ] Okay. I can’t talk you into staying there any longer. And I’ve done everything I can to prepare, so I just hope that I’m ready.

[ Gasps ]

[ Groaning ]

Gloria: Oh, hello, angels. Listen, we are in the middle of a business meeting, so if you two could move along.

Chloe: Oh, well, we actually have a table for two in mind, so don’t worry.

Kevin: Enjoy your lunch. Good luck. Geez.

Chloe: I wonder what that was all about.

Kevin: Michael told me Gloria is giving Lauren the hard sell to promote her. She wants to take over as the head of JCV.

Chloe: Oh, you got to give it to Gloria. She has chutzpah. Now it all makes sense.

Lauren: So can you pinpoint any area of JCV that could be improved upon?

Gloria: Yes, I can. Certainly. Not every division is perfect, and again, that is why strong leadership is so important. One of the first things I would focus on is our accessories. I would like to find a fashion-forward designer who could come up with statement necklaces, bold, bright pieces that really draw the eye. The way I see it, when you’re a young woman just starting out, you may not have the money to buy the entire JCV ensemble, but you can afford a piece of jewelry that will make your outfit pop. You agree with me?

Lauren: Yes. Yes, I do.

Gloria: Of course you do. [ Chuckles ] Because I know my stuff.

Lauren: It’s a good idea. And I can’t tell you how many candidates were tripped up by that question.

Gloria: [ Chuckles ] Lauren, I have so many more ideas where that came from. No one wants this more or will work harder for you.

Lauren: Alright. Alright, let’s try it on a temporary basis. Okay? Let’s try some of your ideas, see what happens.

Gloria: Oh, thank you. Thank you. [ Laughs ] Thank you for realizing I am the best person for the job. Oh, Lauren, this is so exciting. I am thrilled. Now, I am going to go back to the office and make sure my assistant duties are covered, and then I will dive right in as interim president of JCV. My, doesn’t that have a lovely ring to it.

Young & The Restless Update

Recap written by Christine

Devon in "Young and The Restless" 8/27/21

Devon, Victor and Rey were in Ben’s suite at The Grand Phoenix. When Devon called Mariah’s phone, it rang in Ben’s duffel bag. Rey searched the bag and found the phone. Devon thought it was crazy that Ben had been texting them as “Mariah” for weeks now. He said they should call Abby, because she could be in danger. Victor agreed.

At the Chancellor house, Abby begged Ben to tell her where Mariah and the baby were, and she promised not to hold it against him. Ben pretended he wasn’t involved, and he got up to leave. Abby plead for Ben to stay, even if it was to tell her how wrong she was. Victor called, and Abby declined it. Ben proclaimed his innocence and asked how Abby could accuse him of something so horrible. Abby wanted to help Ben. She knew he’d been through hell. He regretted admitting that, but she was glad he did. She said there was nothing to be ashamed of. He asserted that she’d jumped to the wrong conclusion. Abby noted that Mariah went missing right after Ben came to town, and he’d said he had that job when he didn’t, then he told her about the notebook that Mariah had. Ben continued to maintain that he didn’t do it. Devon called, and Ben asked Abby if Devon suspected him, too. Ben didn’t take the call.

Sharon and Tessa went to Crimson Lights after their walk. They both found it helpful to be with each other right now. Rey texted Sharon with what he knew. She and Tessa were shocked Ben had Mariah’s phone. Tessa wanted Sharon to call Rey, but Sharon said he’d instructed them to just sit tight. Sharon didn’t want to believe Dylan’s best friend would kidnap her daughter. She suggested that someone planted Mariah’s phone in his bag. Tessa pointed out that Ben had been there to listen to their deepest fears. He was also there when they talked about tricking the kidnapper into thinking they thought Mariah was taking a break. If Ben was the kidnapper, he was always one step ahead of them because they told him what they were going to do.

Back at the hotel, Rey had to head out, and he told Victor not to try to be a hero. He wanted to be the first to know if Victor’s team found Ben. Victor wanted to be the first to know if the police found him. Rey promised to keep Victor posted. Victor left. Devon’s PI let him know that Ben had never gone back to Iowa City. Rey figured Ben had been doing this alone, taking care of Mariah all by himself. He said he’d run a check on Ben’s credit cards. Kevin called Rey. He’d gotten a new version of the security video from the store, and there was no old man buying protein bars. Devon wondered why Ben would tell such a flimsy lie, and Rey said that most stores would’ve recorded over the footage by now.

Abby in "Young and The Restless" 8/27/21

Abby spoke about what a good person Mariah was. She was carrying Abby’s baby, and that was just one of many kind things she’d done. Ben said people wanted to do nice things for Abby because she was a light in a very dark world. She implored him to talk to her. He said Genoa City was in her blood, but to him it represented a time in his life when he still had hope. He first came back to remember that feeling, then he wanted to feel hopeful again. He needed to find a way back to his past with her. He knew he had no right to expect that from her. He felt lucky to have shared a life with her once. It had been magic. He broke down crying because he didn’t protect her when they were together. She said it wasn’t his fault, and if she ever said otherwise, she was sorry.

Abby said to lose hope would drive anyone to do desperate things. “Unforgivable things,” Ben whispered, but Abby assured him that she’d never judge him, and she didn’t want anything bad to happen to him. She knew he’d never hurt anyone. He said she knew the real him. She said he knew her too, and he came to her every time she was worried about Mariah, and he assured her everything would be alright. Abby said that Ben knew Mariah was fine, and he knew she’d come home. “I didn’t mean for it to get this far,” Ben admitted. He said he’d always planned to let Mariah go. Abby believed that, but she thought it was better for this to happen sooner rather than later. Ben didn’t know what he was thinking when he took Mariah. He was just trying to get closer to Abby. He’d needed a lifeline. Abby said she could be that, but first they had to clean up this mess. She asked him to take her to Mariah and the baby.

Back at the hotel, Rey put out an APB on Ben. Victor called someone and said he couldn’t reach Abby. He asked that person to give her a call. Devon called Ben again and got his voicemail. Rey instructed Devon what to say. Devon said he was just calling to talk about ways to help Abby. Devon didn’t think he’d get a call back. Rey asked if they knew why Ben would do this. Victor thought Ben was in love with Abby. He told Rey how Ben’s son put a tripwire on the stairs to make Abby fall and lose the baby. After her miscarriage, she wasn’t able to carry a baby to term. Devon said Ben showed up out of nowhere and tried to be super supportive. Rey said Ben had been excited to give a crucial tip in the case. Victor thought Ben had hoped to earn Abby’s undying gratitude. Rey had seen that dynamic before in arson cases – where a firefighter would start a fire, then show up and save the day. He said the good thing about this is it likely meant Ben took care of Mariah, because he was planning to be the hero of the story. Victor used to respect Ben, and he wondered what happened to the great guy he once knew.

Sharon in "Young and The Restless" 8/27/21

Rey called Sharon back and let her know Ben lied about being in Iowa and about the guy in the convenience store. He said Ben didn’t know he was the person of interest in the case. Sharon asked what to do if they saw Ben, and Rey said not to do anything except call Rey. Denise called Devon and let him know that two months ago, Ben Russell rented out a house. That was Ben Rayburn’s birth name. Devon relayed this to Rey. The house was on the same street as the convenience store.

Sharon wondered what happened to make Ben change so drastically. Tessa said whatever it was, it was nothing compared to what she’d do if she got a hold of him. Tessa noted that Ben snatched Mariah out of their lives and tried to convince them nothing was wrong by sending those phony texts, and he watched them grow more and more scared. She wondered if he got a sick thrill out of it. Sharon hoped that if Ben was found, he’d tell them where Mariah was.

Victor went to Abby’s house, and she didn’t answer the doorbell. The door was unlocked, so he went in to look around, and he found her phone on the table. Rey called, and Victor told him about the situation at Abby’s. Rey told Victor about the house Ben was renting.

Mariah was still in labor in the locked room at Ben’s house. She begged to go to the hospital. She wondered what was with the vitamins and protein bars if they were going to abandon her and the baby now. She wondered if the captor went to get help or to buy supplies for the baby. Surely no one would be cruel enough to abandon her and Bowie now. Mariah told Bowie that it looked like she’d be the only one in the welcome wagon, but it was okay. Women had been doing this forever. She got choked up because there wouldn’t be anyone to help her through this incredibly scary time, and she quietly begged for help. She felt a very strong contraction.

Ben in "Young and The Restless" 8/27/21

Ben brought Abby to the house and he let her into Mariah’s room. Abby rushed to Mariah and exclaimed she was in labor. At first, Mariah thought Abby was in her imagination, since she’d dreamed of so many people coming to rescue her, like Tessa. Abby assured Mariah that she was really there. Mariah was relieved to be found, and she said they had to get to the hospital. Abby said it was okay – she brought a – she turned to the door, but Ben was gone. Devon and Rey showed up. Nobody mentioned Ben’s name, but Devon and Rey learned that he was the one who brought Abby here. Devon stayed with Mariah and Abby while Rey left to search the area.

Abby tried to help Mariah to the car, but she had another contraction, and she said she wasn’t going to make it to the hospital. Devon sat with Mariah, while Abby prepared to deliver her son. Mariah worried that the EMTs wouldn’t make it in time, and Abby said she’d watched lots of videos, so she knew how to help Mariah. Devon video called Nate and set up the phone so Nate could see Mariah and guide them through the labor. Mariah wished Nate was really there. He said he’d see her and the baby as soon as the EMTs brought them to the hospital. Abby said Mariah’s body knew what to do. Mariah had a contraction, and Nate showed Devon a breathing technique to do with her. Devon helped Mariah, and he told her she was amazing. Abby said that Mariah was her best friend, cheerleader and the baby’s fierce protector. She’d be forever grateful.

Everyone encouraged Mariah as she pushed, and Abby was amazed when she saw the baby’s head. Nate told Mariah to do one more big push, and when she did, the baby was born. Devon joined Abby at the end of the bed, and they admired the baby. Mariah asked how he looked, and Abby said he was perfect. Mariah asked Nate why the baby wasn’t crying. Nate explained how to to clear his airway. Once Abby did that, the baby wailed. Devon picked him up and held him to his chest, and he immediately settled down. Mariah said Devon had the magic touch. They heard the ambulance. Abby went to Mariah and held her hand. Devon joined them.

Rey in "Young and The Restless" 8/27/21

Rey called Sharon with the news, although he was under the impression that Mariah was going to give birth at Memorial. Sharon passed this along to Tessa. Tessa was ready to go to the hospital right now, but Sharon said to wait because she had to call Victor.

Sharon called Victor and let him know Mariah and Abby were found. He asked about the baby. “I hope you’re ready to be a grandfather again,” she said. He smiled.

Transcript provided by Suzanne

Mariah: Okay, bowie. Pain that I felt earlier wasn’t necessarily a contraction. Probably just pulled something working out. Trying to be healthy, ’cause i haven’t felt anything —

[ Gasps ] Oh!

[ Breathing heavily ]

Devon: So, rey’s trying to find out if there’s surveillance cameras at the convenience store?

Abby: If we could get footage of the man that stitch saw buying a truckload of those protein bars that mariah likes, I mean, that could be a concrete lead.

Tessa: The footage would also confirm that the guy’s shopping list was written on the yellow notepad with the storks on it that I bought mariah.

Abby: I just wish that rey would call. This is torture.

Tessa: You’d think he would be moving pretty quickly now that we have something worth pursuing.

Abby: Maybe you should call him.

Sharon: Oh, I have no doubt that rey is doing everything he can. He just — you know, he has to run everything by paul first, and it takes a little bit of time to get permission to view private video footage.

Devon: Yeah. No, we all just need to be patient, so…

Abby: I’m trying, and I am trying to stay positive. You know, we’re just lucky that stitch spotted this guy in the first place.

Devon: Yeah, yeah, no, we’re lucky you were paying attention. Where’d you say that shop was?

Stitch: Fourth street and willow lane.

Devon: Fourth and willow? You said you were staying at the gcac before you went back to iowa city, right?

Stitch: Yeah, I was.

Devon: So what were you doing in that part of town?

Gloria: I do appreciate you agreeing to a follow-up after our last get-together. In retrospect, I realized I may have been a smidge aggressive.

Lauren: [ Chuckles ] Maybe just a tad.

Gloria: I know, but my enthusiasm got the best of me.

Kevin: Hello.

Lauren: Oh, hi.

Chloe: Hi.

Kevin: What? What does?

Chloe: Well, she was fawning all over sally the other day, trying to pump her for info about the company’s young demographic.

Kevin: Poor lauren. Should we go back and save her?

Chloe: [ Chuckles ] No, gloria told us to run along. We should keep running.

Kevin: Okay. [ Laughs ]

Gloria: All I’m asking is that you listen to what I have to offer jcv with an open mind.

Lauren: I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t willing to hear you out. So let’s get to it. You say you’re the best candidate for the job, so stop telling me and start convincing me.

Phyllis: Okay, I got your text that you’re back from milan, but I just wanted to personally check in with you. So —

Jack: You will be happy to know I fulfilled my duties as your messenger. Summer loved the gift you sent her.

Phyllis: Thank you for doing that for me. Summer texted me and said the visit was amazing. So, okay, I want your take on the whole summer-kyle thing. How are they doing and how are they doing with harrison?

Jack: It appears our kids are doing splendidly. They have made harrison feel at home. Kyle and I have worked out the logistics of him co-running jabot from europe, and summer is just shining at marchetti.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] Great.

Jack: Want to try that again and maybe say it like you mean it?

Nick: I got here as fast as i could. Do you have some news to tell me and mom?

Victor: I do indeed. But before I get into that, i want you to know that I’m further investigating what happened to mariah. No update yet, but as soon as there is, I will let you know.

Nick: I really appreciate that. Sharon is worried sick. I mean, everyone is.

Nikki: We’re doing everything we can to make sure she gets home safe.

Nick: Well, just keep me posted, alright?

Victor: I shall do that.

Nick: Was there anything else you wanted to discuss?

Victor: In our investigation of ashland locke’s past, we may have come up with something that’s potentially very interesting.

Ashland: Is that right? Well, I was prepared for this to happen at some point. I appreciate you telling me. I’ll deal with it.

Victoria: That didn’t sound very good. What exactly do you have to deal with? Psoriatic arthritis, made my joints stiff,

provided by…

Phyllis: Of course I’m happy for summer and kyle and sweet little harrison. Of course I am. I just want them to be in love and happy here in genoa city. Why can’t they be happy at home?

Jack: You know why. Because summer has a wonderful job that she loves.

Phyllis: I know. You’re saying all the things that I should feel, that I’m thrilled. But I’m being selfish, that’s all. And you know what? I saw melancholy behind that pleasant demeanor. I saw it in your eyes when you were taking harrison to italy. I mean, I know that family’s important to you. Why can’t you just admit that this is a loss for you?

Jack: It’s not a loss. Kyle and harrison are hours away. I can fly there anytime.

Phyllis: But it’s not like having kyle here with you every single day and having harrison here at the house. It’s not the same. You know, I miss my daughter walking into the grand phoenix and, you know, just grabbing a bite and…

[ Sighs ] Why can’t you admit that this is hard for you?

Jack: Okay, I give. It’s a lot harder than i admitted.

Phyllis: Thank you.

Jack: But we’re not gonna sit around here and wallow.

Phyllis: Why not? I want mutual wallowing.

Jack: Absolutely not. No. No, come with me. Come on.

Gloria: I have been studying the market. Yes, I have. And I know where this industry is going. Now, if you were to give me this job, I will anticipate trends and beat all the other companies to the punch. Now, wait, I am not saying that I will be reckless. No going rogue here. What I’m saying is I will make intelligent decisions followed by quick and efficient action. Lauren, I do want to carry on the work that summer started and even sally, what she carried forward in her brief tenure.

Lauren: Do you think you understand the targeted demographic, though?

Gloria: Absolutely. I’ve done my research. The women we are going after are young, ambitious, and they want — no, they demand work-life balance. And they care about the world around them. So our clothes will be socially conscious and environmentally friendly, just the way they are. Now, as I said before, I will use inclusive marketing strategies.

Lauren: You’ve really done your homework.

Gloria: And I can make your vision of this brand happen if you will only give me the opportunity to do so.

Lauren: I’ll admit, I’m impressed.

Gloria: Does that mean we can celebrate now?

Lauren: No, it does not. Not so fast. Because this interview is not over yet.

Chloe: Wow. Gloria is not holding back. Lauren is not going to make it easy for her.

Kevin: They are two forces of nature.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Chloe: Oh, is that an update on mariah?

Kevin: No. No news yet.

Chloe: [ Sighs ] I’m sorry. She is a total badass. Whatever has happened to her, she can handle it.

Kevin: I hope so. For her and for the baby.

Stitch: That market was out of my way. I had never been there before.

Sharon: Then why did you happen to go in?

Stitch: Remember how we went to chancellor park before I took off for iowa?

Abby: Yeah, we went and looked at an apartment for you. We had a good talk. I was in my head because I was worried about mariah.

Stitch: After we parted ways, I was feeling kind of nostalgic, so I went for a walk. I ended up by that pond we used to go to together on the other side of the park.

Abby: I know the one you mean.

Stitch: Well, the time got away from me. By the time I finally hit the road, I wanted to grab some snacks for the ride, so i stopped by the convenience store on the way out of town.

Devon: Mm. At the exact same time the guy was there, too.

Stitch: Not exactly. He came in after I did.

Devon: Still pretty lucky, though.

Stitch: Not lucky enough. I wish I could’ve put things together back then. We would’ve had a lead a lot sooner.

Tessa: Well, we have one now.

Abby: Thanks to you, rey is finally on a path that could lead us to mariah. For people who could use a lift

Tessa: [ Sighs ] I am too restless just sitting here. I’m going to get a drink.

Sharon: I’ll go with you.

Devon: Listen, I’m not gonna go anywhere until we hear back from rey, but I do have some business calls to return.

Abby: Yeah, well, you can use the library or the study if you need.

Devon: Okay, thank you.

Stitch: You sure you don’t want anything from the kitchen?

Abby: No, no. Thank you, though.

Stitch: I couldn’t tell how you felt when I mentioned that i took a little sentimental detour by our pond. I hope I didn’t make you uncomfortable.

[ Both laugh ]

Ashland: That call was from a guy that used to work for me at one of my first news stations. He’s been retired. He hasn’t been in the business for years, but he’s suddenly getting these calls inquiring about me, including one from a reporter who managed to track him down.

Victoria: Well, probably at billy’s request. Just another chanccomm article.

Ashland: Yeah, I was thinking that, as well. Maybe newman media doing some digging.

Victoria: I’m sure that adam is hungry to grab some headlines. I mean, he — he would do at his board members’ expense. He told me that his company is launching in a few days and i wouldn’t be able to miss it.

Ashland: So he has a strong motive, as well.

Victoria: And then there’s my father, of course.

Ashland: Trying to protect his daughter. Victor gave us his word and his blessing that he was behind us, but he still could be doing his due diligence.

Victoria: Well, whoever it is, you seem to be taking it in stride.

Ashland: Well, I’ve gotten used to people being overly interested in my life. What would really be bothersome is if you heard information about me from someone else, because if there’s anything that you need to know about my life, I’d like to be the one to tell you.

Victoria: Well, um, okay. I’m ready and willing to listen.

Ashland: Well, there is a reason that the guy got a call from a reporter who I just talked to. When I was young, years ago, just starting out, I worked for this older woman who took me under her wing and she mentored me in the media world. Her husband owned two news stations, and after he passed away, she was the one who kind of took charge. And years later, when she died, I bought the two stations from her. And that’s what began my media empire.

Victoria: Okay. Well, thank you. I appreciate you telling me the truth.

Nikki: So, ashland was mentored by this woman, and after she died, he bought the news stations she owned?

Victor: Exactly. And that was his first big move in the business world, alright? And those tv stations he bought from her are the foundations of his company.

Nick: Well, I was concerned there was some deep, dark secrets about ashland, but this doesn’t seem too suspicious.

Nikki: No, I don’t think so either.

Victor: That’s not the whole story. There’s no one around who knows much about their relationship anymore, but the people we approached were most reluctant to talk about the relationship between ashland and that woman.

Nick: Well, it sounds like a non-issue to me. Obviously, ashland didn’t work too hard to keep this covered up or your pi wouldn’t have found it so easily. Ashland working with this woman and then buying those stations, that’s probably public knowledge.

Nikki: Exactly. And it’s not a crime to be an ambitious businessman. I think we should just accept that victoria has found a man who has no skeletons in his closet worth finding.

Victor: Well, sweetheart, if upon further investigation, we find out nothing, then I agree with you.

Nikki: It’s almost like you’re hoping to find something. Is that what this is? You want to destroy victoria’s marriage?

Mariah: Okay, bowie. Braxton hicks contractions are like practice contractions for a woman’s body to get them ready for the real ones when they’re about to give birth. And these — these better be braxton hicks contractions because you are not ready to make your grand entrance, okay? It’s too soon. It is way, way too soon. You can’t be born yet, alright? Okay, good. Good, I’m glad we agree on that.

Abby: You didn’t make me feel uncomfortable. I mean, why would that make me upset? I used to love going to that pond and feeding those ducks.

Stitch: Well, it’s still beautiful. Plenty of ducks looking for a friendly hand-out. I hope you take your son there one day when he’s old enough. Ah, I’m — I’m sorry. It’S…

Abby: It’s okay. No, I am gonna take him there all the time.

Stitch: You will. And you can make all kinds of incredible memories with your boy.

Abby: Thank you for being so supportive. That’s exactly what I needed to hear. You’re a really great friend.

Stitch: Friendship is a two-way street. It’s meant so much to me reconnecting like this.

Abby: Me, too.

Stitch: Listen, um, I’d love to wait here with you for rey to call, but I have to check in with max’s care team.

Abby: Right, yeah. I understand.

Stitch: You sure you’re gonna be okay?

Abby: Yeah, yeah, I have a great support team. I promise I’m gonna keep it together. In fact, I’m gonna go check on them in the kitchen.

Stitch: Okay. I’ll call and check in on you later, okay?

Abby: Yeah.

Devon: Taking off already?

Devon: Yeah. Um, can I talk to you for a second?

Devon: Sure.

Stitch: You have my number, right?

Devon: I do, yeah.

Stitch: Please call me if abby needs me.

Devon: You got it.

Chloe: Yeah, I should have.

Lauren: Well, not that gloria has hurried off, I thought i would share some news.

Kevin: We already know.

Lauren: Ah.

Chloe: Yeah, I was listening. Sorry, not sorry.

[ Laughter ]

Lauren: So, do you think I’m crazy for hiring her?

Chloe: No, actually, I think it’s a great idea. I mean, I think she said some great things, and I’m beginning to think that maybe this interim gig might become more permanent.

Kevin: I just hope she can do her job without driving you crazy.

Lauren: [ Laughs ] That is why it’s going to be currently temporary. And, you know, it takes some time to commit, you know. Learned that the hard way with sally.

Chloe: Uh-oh.

Lauren: Yeah, wish you would consider that before you hired her.

Chloe: Can we agree just to disagree?

Lauren: Look, I’m concerned, chloe. I really wanted it to work with sally at jcv, and then she showed her true colors. And I’m just afraid that you’ve made the same mistake that i did.

Chloe: I appreciate the warning, I really do, but I went into this with my eyes wide open. And I know sally and her ambitions have caused her to make some really unwise choices, but haven’t we all been there?

Lauren: What she did goes way beyond an error in judgment.

Chloe: Then I think she’s gonna fit in great with my team. I mean, look at chelsea. She’s a grifter. Look at me. I mean, I basically went off the deep end after I lost my daughter. But we’ve grown and we’ve changed, and I sense a real kindred spirit with sally, someone who is dying to put her talent to use, and I think she’s really just trying to move her life forward. Don’t you think she deserves that chance?

Lauren: You know, yes, in principle. But I don’t think she’s gonna change.

Jack: Hey. Hey! Let’s do this without phones. Come on, silence it. Just silence it. There, we’ll soak up the sun. Talk over our iced coffee. Without focusing on the fact that we’re not with our kids. We can plan a trip to visit them, make a regular thing of it.

Phyllis: You know what? I have an idea. Why doesn’t jabot buy marchetti and move the offices here?

Jack: Why didn’t I think of that? It’s feasible.

Phyllis: I’m just throwing it out there.

Jack: Jabot’s got millions lying around. Why not just snap it right up?

Phyllis: See, I come up with all the good ideas.

[ Both laugh ] It’s nice to see you laugh.

Jack: It’s nice to laugh. How about you? You doing any better?

Phyllis: I’m okay, thanks.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Phyllis: We have company.

Sally: Wow, seems as if you guys are joined at the hip lately. How nice for the two of you.

Phyllis: Well, I’m spending time with a friend. You know, the definition of a friend is someone you care about and someone you trust that feels the same way about you. I’m sure it’s a foreign concept, but you should maybe wrap your head around that.

Sally: Oh, you think you’re trustworthy?

Jack: Okay, we’re not doing this. Sally, it’s nice to see you. If you’re just passing through, I suggest you move along.

Victor: Let’s put this to rest, okay? I’m not interested in ruining the relationship between ashland and victoria. I’m happy for her. I want her to be happy. He’s a good man, and I think he’s good for her. Having said that, I don’t want her to go into the marriage blindly, not knowing what the hell this man is all about. If my investigation turns up nothing, then good, then we can enjoy wonderful wedding in tuscany. I mean, imagine that. In tuscany in october, that’s absolutely beautiful. And then we can actually offer our good wishes in an honest way.

Nick: I’m wondering if we should keep digging. I talked to phyllis about this, and she said that if we keep meddling, it could backfire. Now, I realize the irony in that. It contradicts everything I was saying earlier.

Victor: Exactly.

Nick: My first instinct was to dig into ashland’s past, see what we could find out. But then I asked myself, “what right do I have — what right do any of us have — to question victoria’s choices?” Are we just begging for trouble?

Nikki: I think that we are. That’s been the point I’ve been trying to make all this time. I mean, what is the worst-case scenario? That ashland unfortunately dies too soon.

Victor: Sweetheart, I just want victoria to be happy, okay? I don’t want to find out before she gets married there’s something very dark in ashland’s past, that’s all.

Nikki: Well, you know what? If there is something dark from his past, that was then, this is now. What’s important is the man he is today. That’s who victoria is marrying.

Victoria: I have to ask. Did you have a more personal relationship with this woman who mentored you?

Ashland: It’s natural to wonder about that, but the answer is no. No, she was lovely. Bright and fun to be with, but it wasn’t anything like that. It was nothing like this.

Victoria: I’m not looking for reassurance and I’m certainly not threatened by something that took place decades ago. You have nothing to be ashamed of. I’m just simply interested in the path that you took to become the man that you are now.

Ashland: Well, I want to tell you everything. And I am so glad that you will be by my side for this next chapter of my life, wherever that takes us.

Abby: Oh, rey, thank god you’re here.

Tessa: Please tell us that you made some headway with the convenience store.

Rey: The store has surveillance footage. I’m just waiting on a warrant to obtain it.

Sharon: I told them that it might take some time.

Tessa: I’m trying, but this is excruciating.

Rey: I understand, but the good news is, is that I got the okay from chief williams to set up ongoing surveillance at the store. I have someone staking it out now just in case the guy that stitch crossed paths with returns. I also have another cop ready to review all the traffic camera footage from the area, so if this guy shows up on one of those cameras, we can at least track him to wherever he went after he left the store that day.

Sharon: You mean to wherever mariah’s being held against her will.

Rey: Or at least see what kind of car he was driving so we can run the plates.

Abby: That is great news. Thank you so much.

Rey: I wanted to tell you all what I knew in person, but now i got to get back to work.

Devon: Well, I really do hope your investigation pans out.

Tessa: And soon, because i don’t know how much more of this we can take.

Rey: I promise I’m not gonna give up until mariah’s found.

Phyllis: I apologize. I apologize for letting my emotion get the better of me. She brings out the worst in me. I’m sorry, you don’t need to be in the middle.

Jack: Thank you for the apology. I appreciate the sentiment. I just wish we could all move on to some semblance of civility, you know, rise above our baser instincts, refrain from the knee-jerk reactions. You — you think you could even do that? Honest answers only.

Phyllis: I mean, I’ll try not to let her get to me. Is that good enough?

Jack: That’s good enough for now.

Phyllis: Okay. Well, how about another iced coffee? It’s on me.

Jack: Well, if you’re buying.

Phyllis: [ Laughs ]

Nick: Hey, phyllis, it’s me. I picked up some of your favorites from the coffee house. I’m hoping we can have some lunch together. Call me back. Alright.

Sally: Phyllis isn’t free.

Nick: Excuse me?

Sally: Your girlfriend’s tied up at the moment.

Nick: And you know this how?

Sally: I just ran into her. She’s where she always is lately — with jack.

Kevin: You’ve been a little off since you spoke to lauren.

Chloe: Have I?

Kevin: Yeah, you didn’t order dessert.

Chloe: Yeah, I guess that is weird.

Kevin: What is it? Did she get into your head? Are you having some doubts about sally?

Chloe: I’m having a lot of doubts about a lot of people, including myself. I mean, what was I thinking? That I could stop sally from going to the dark side like I’m some paragon of virtue? And, I mean, look at chelsea. I mean, I love her, but, please, don’t even get me started on adam. I just — I mean, really, what was I thinking? That the three of us could be the positive, guiding forces in sally’s life? And with our combined rap sheets? I mean, come on, we’re like the legions of doom.

Kevin: Well, adam is a super villain, but you’re a different story. And you’re not giving yourself enough credit. Despite everything that’s happened in your past — and my own colorful history — look at us now — two upstanding citizens with thriving careers.

Chloe: We have come a long way, haven’t we?

Kevin: Most people — not named adam newman — are capable of change. And if you think sally is, then go with that. Also, screwing up in your personal life isn’t the same as screwing up at the office. And if she was good at her job at fenmore’s, she’ll be good at her job at newman media.

Chloe: You are so right. Professional lives and personal lives are totally separate entities. And sally even told that she was trying to forget seeking revenge on phyllis and that she was putting all of her energy into her work, and I really believe her.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Kevin: Rey needs my help. He’s got a lead on mariah.

Chloe: Oh, my god. Bring her home!

Kevin: Yeah, that’s the plan.

Chloe: [ Sighs ]

Abby: When rey gets his hands on that surveillance footage, we could find out all sorts of information.

Tessa: It’s definitely something to hold onto, but it makes the anticipation so much worse.

Sharon: We could be getting closer to finding mariah, but she still seems so far away. Would you mind if I went up to your and mariah’s room? I just — I want to be near her things and feel her close to me.

Tessa: I think that’s a wonderful idea.

Abby: You’ve been quiet.

Devon: Yeah. Hey, what do you make of stitch’s story about finding that old man buying those protein bars that mariah likes and having the same notepad that tessa bought her?

Abby: I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking. Wait, you don’t believe that ben’s telling the truth?

Victor: Sweetheart, what brings you by?

Victoria: I will give you one guess.

Victor: What, the locke/newman merger? I mean, that has certainly garnered a lot of press.

Victoria: I’m actually here about something more personal.

Victor: You’re upset about something. What is it?

Victoria: Did you start an investigation into ashland’s past?

Victor: Would that surprise you?

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Ashland has nothing to hide.

Victor: Well, I hope you’re right.

Victoria: You and I have gotten to a very good place, and I hope that doesn’t have to change. Dad, please leave this alone.

Mariah: [ Groaning ]

[ Breathing heavily ] Oh, god. Okay. Ohh. It’s over. Oh! Ohh.

[ Breathing heavily ] Hey! If these are real contractions, I need to be in a hospital. Okay? I need a doctor. Please, please help! Why are you doing this to us? Why would you do this to a pregnant woman and her unborn child?! Please! What are you going to do to us?! Oh, god.

[ Breathing heavily ]

Rey: Here’s the footage from the convenience store.

Kevin: Oh, I hope this is the break we need. We’ve got to find the son of a bitch who took mariah.

Rey: Allegedly took her. But, yeah, I want to nail the guy, too. Fortunately, we don’t have to go through all the video, since stitch narrowed it down to the time frame.

Kevin: And we know who we’re looking for — stitch. Once we find him on camera, we track his movement through the store and he’ll lead us straight to the man we’re after.

Abby: I don’t understand why you have doubts about ben. I mean, why would he make something like that up?

Devon: I’m not saying that he did.

Abby: But you’re suspicious?

Devon: Yeah, I am. It’s hard to explain. It’s just a feeling that I have. Doesn’t — doesn’t seem like it’s right.

Abby: I just — I can’t believe that anything strange is going on.

Devon: I know, and listen, the last thing I want to do is cause you even more stress right now, but I got to tell you how I’m feeling because I care about yoU. Alright? I think that we can all agree that stitch’s story is pretty coincidental, to say the least. And, you know, him showing up out of the blue like he did at this point in your life, it’s also a bit odd. And then he kept delaying his departure and showing up to see you, and then the man comes back to town without having a job. Why do you think he did that?

Abby: He said he wanted to check on me because of what’s going on with mariah.

Devon: Right. That’s another thing. I would say he’s gone out of his way to be a shoulder for you to lean on while your husband’s gone. And I just can’t help but wonder if he might be trying to get close to you or maybe even rekindle what you guys had by taking advantage of your pain and your fear right now.

Recap written by Eva

Kevin and Rey notice that most of the security footage from the convenience store has been erased except for a tiny bit that shows Stitch but from the place where he was standing he couldn’t have seen the man he claims was buying Mariah’s favorite protein bars. Rey thinks Stitch was sending them on a wild goose chase because he kidnapped Mariah. Kevin gets a text saying that the guys, at the station were finally able to get a location on Mariah’s phone.

Abby talks to Victor and he persuades her that Devon’s suspicions that Stitch kidnapped Mariah to take advantage of her fear and worry about Mariah and the baby to get close to her could be right. Devon asks Mrs. Toliver to investigate Stich and the story he told Abby. Devon heads to Abby’s house and he and Victor decide to go to the Grand Phoenix and talk to Stitch. Devon gets a call from Mrs. Toliver who tells him Stitch was fired from his job in Iowa City weeks ago.

Rey, Devon and Victor find Mariah’s phone in Stitches hotel room. Mariah prepares to have the baby as her labor pains get worse. Abby sends Stitch a text telling him she needs to see him and he comes over to see her and tells her he is there for her anytime she needs him. Abby tells Stitch how much he has meant to her during the time that Mariah has been missing. Abby tells Stitch that she can tell he feels guilty about the loss of their baby and how their marriage ended. Abby tells Stitch that the loss of their baby and Max’s illness were not his fault. Stitch admits to Abby that nothing has gone right in his life since he left town and he felt like if he could make things right with her then his life would get back on track again. Abby tells Stitch that she couldn’t handle losing another child. Stitch tells Abby that he wouldn’t let that happen. Abby cries and asks Stitch to tell her the whereabouts of Mariah and the baby.

Mariah in "Young and The Restless" 8/26/21

Mariah was in labor, and she was frantic because the contractions were getting stronger. She spoke directly into the camera and implored her captor to save the baby. She urged the baby to relax, then she talked to him about their situation. When this all started, she was just trying to help Abby and Chance. She chuckled about the morning sickness and admitted the baby made her life really difficult for a little while. She’d worried her entire pregnancy would be like that, but after she got locked up, she started to see things really differently. She said he kept her sane, and she hoped she’d done the same for him. She told him he was loved, and that wasn’t a term she threw around lightly. She didn’t grow up with a lot of love, so she was pretty bad at it back then, and even now there were only a handful of people she truly loved. The baby was one of them. She promised he’d be fine, because she protected the people she loved. Mariah wished the baby would stay inside, but she understood if he didn’t want to. She accepted that today would be his birthday, and she said they had to prepare. She sang a line from Tessa’s song to the baby, as she gathered towels, then she broke down sobbing about how much she missed Tessa. She felt lightheaded and needed to sit, and she told herself she couldn’t pass out, because Bowie needed her. Later, Mariah paced around talking to Bowie, and she was hit by a contraction so strong that it brought her to her knees.

Denise in "Young and The Restless" 8/26/21

Devon was with Denise at his place. She hadn’t found anything new about Mariah. Devon told Denise about Ben seeing an old man buying prenatal bars and using a piece of paper that was just like some paper Mariah had. Devon said the tip may lead to something, but he didn’t think it’d lead to some random old man. He said Ben randomly returned and kept finding reasons to spend time with Abby and bring up romantic moments from their past. Denise thought the part about Ben pretending he got a job at the hospital was a big red flag. Devon wanted to trust him, but things weren’t adding up. Denise had learned not to ignore gut feelings. She said they’d investigate Ben.

Victor in "Young and The Restless" 8/26/21

Victor visited Abby at the Chancellor house. He assured her that his security team would get to the bottom of this. They were working with the police department. Abby was a little shaken up. She said Devon thought it could be possible that Ben had something to do with Mariah’s disappearance. Abby didn’t know what to believe. She said Ben had been a godsend, but there had been a couple times when she sensed he was trying to rekindle what they once had. Victor recalled Ben telling him that he was very concerned about Abby being alone. It made Victor feel compelled to say that Abby was happily married. Abby noted that Ben returned right before Mariah went missing. She said she used to be married to Ben and love him, but could he have something to do with Mariah’s disappearance? Abby hated thinking about Ben this way. Victor said, as a parent, Abby had to consider all possibilities when it came to the security of her child, and she couldn’t worry about people’s feelings. They wondered what Ben’s motive could be. Abby didn’t think it was about money, unless Max’s condition sent Ben into debt, but there wasn’t a ransom demand. She said that if Ben needed money, he could’ve asked her, and she would’ve given it to him, regardless of what Max did to her.

Victor suggested Ben was vengeful because Abby left him. Abby said she’d spent a lot of time with him, and she would’ve picked up on that. Victor asked how much time, and Abby said, total, a few hours. She was horrified to think that Mariah may have been locked up alone and terrified all that time that Ben was with Abby. Devon came over, and they all agreed to move forward with investigating Ben. Abby wasn’t sure that they should confront Ben directly, like Victor wanted to. Devon agreed with Victor, since they needed answers fast. He said if Ben was innocent, he’d understand why they had to ask. Devon said Ben was staying at the Grand Phoenix, and Abby was ready to go, but Victor and Devon didn’t want her to come. They thought Ben would be more honest if Abby wasn’t there. Victor promised to tell Abby everything that happened. He asked her to be careful, then he and Devon left. Abby promptly texted Ben and asked him to come over. Ben was at Society when he got the text. He paid his bill and left.

Ben arrived at Abby’s place and she told him she felt better when was around. She hugged him. Abby said Devon and Victor were here earlier, and they wanted to help, but there was nothing they could do. The longer this went on, the more scared Abby got. Ben urged Abby to believe it would be okay. Abby said Tessa could sense something was wrong with Mariah, and Abby could feel her baby crying for her, and it pierced her heart. She didn’t know where he was or if Mariah could take care of him or if he and Mariah had enough food. She sobbed that she would give up everything she had if she could get them back. She said she was all alone, and Chance wasn’t here. Ben pulled Abby into a hug and said he was here. He asked her to just tell him what to do. Abby said that even after all these years, there was still something between them. She asked if he came here to be with her and if there was never a job at the hospital. She said his return was such a blessing, and she wanted to be his sounding board too. “You can tell me anything, anything and I won’t get angry,” she promised. She said she knew him, and she could see the guilt in his eyes. She suggested he felt bad for what happened when they were married. She told him what happened with Max wasn’t his fault. He tearfully said that, as a doctor, he should’ve known what his son was capable of. Abby said it wasn’t his fault they lost the baby. She said he could understand what she was going through, because she was about to lose another baby. He said he wouldn’t let that happen. “I admit -” he said. She urged him to go on and asked what he admitted. “I came back here for you,” he said. His life had been so hard since he left, and he’d needed to make things right. He was hoping for some kind of redemption. It was crazy, but he truly believed she was the only one who could put him back on course. He said she could make things right. She said they could make things right for each other. “All is forgiven. Just please please tell me where they are,” she cried.

Devon and Victor went to The Grand Phoenix, and Devon got a call from his PI. She informed him that Ben was lying about having a job at the hospital in Iowa City. He’d been fired months ago.

At Crimson Lights, Kevin found Ben on the convenience store convenience footage, but there was no old man in the store. Rey suggested the customer hadn’t come in yet. The video suddenly cut off for a minute and a half. Rey asked if someone altered it. Kevin said he’d have to do a deeper analysis back at the station to find out. They continued to watch the video, and they did see an older guy, but Ben left the store before the other man purchased anything. Kevin suggested that Ben went to that store a lot, and he got his days mixed up. Rey wondered if Ben made the whole thing up. Kevin protested that Ben was a stand up guy and a doctor, but Rey said some doctors were criminals. Kevin asked why Ben would suggest looking at evidence that could be easily disproven and why he’d edit the video. Rey theorized that Ben was sending them on a wild goose chase to distract them from what was really going on. Kevin received word from the IT guys that they got through the encryption on Mariah’s phone, and they had a location.

Rey in "Young and The Restless" 8/26/21

Rey went to The Grand Phoenix and ran into Devon and Victor in the lobby. Rey asked if Victor’s security team also tracked Mariah’s phone to this hotel. The police tracker Rey wasn’t able to pinpoint a specific location, like a room or a floor. They agreed that they should check Ben’s room first. After entering the suite, Devon called Mariah’s phone, and they heard it ringing in Ben’s duffel bag.

Sharon and Tessa were at the park. Sharon was near tears, because being in Mariah’s room with all her things had been a little overwhelming. Tessa felt overwhelmed too. Sharon was trying to be optimistic, but it wasn’t easy. Tessa thought they should keep trying to send positive energy Mariah’s way and visualize her coming back to them healthy, safe and strong. Tessa told Sharon how she and Mariah had spiritually connected one night and been able to communicate their feelings with each other. Tessa said she didn’t have money like Devon to hire investigators or the power of two prominent families like Abby, so she felt like she was sitting on the sidelines. All she could do was use her love to send Mariah strength and comfort. Tessa said Sharon could do it too. Sharon asked how. Tessa thought they should remember special moments with Mariah to let her know they loved her. Sharon wasn’t sure she had as much faith in this psychic connection as Tessa, but she wanted to try. Tessa said to concentrate on a memory. Sharon recalled the first time Mariah called her mom. Tessa thought about the time Mariah showed up to her concert and made a public apology. Tessa said Mariah never gave up on her, even when Tessa pushed her away. Unfortunately, Sharon and Mariah missed out on a lot of important moments until they reunited. It took a lot for Sharon to convince Mariah that was loved, and Sharon hoped Mariah could feel that love now.

Sharon and Tessa in "Young and The Restless" 8/26/21

Tessa thought it was a miracle she and Mariah were together after all the mistakes they made. Sharon said that was all in the past. She was happy Tessa was part of Mariah’s life. Tessa was still ashamed of some of the things she’d done. Sharon said Tessa grew past that. Tessa said Mariah helped her. Sharon thought Tessa and Mariah evolved together. Tessa said that Mariah taught her so much about love, trust and forgiveness, but she’d never forgive the person who had Mariah, and she hoped they got what was coming to them. Sharon asked Tessa to join her in prayer. Sharon prayed Mariah and the baby would be found safely. Tessa promised that she’d spend the rest of her life making sure Mariah was safe, loved and happy.

Young & The Restless Update

Y&R logo

Recap written by Christine
Photos by Dora

Mariah in "Young and The Restless" 8/25/21

Just as Mariah was trying to convince herself that the pain she felt was a pulled muscle and not a contraction, another one hit. She reminded herself about Braxton Hicks, practice contractions, and she said that’s what this had better be, because it was way too soon for Bowie to make is grand entrance. Mariah was drenched in sweat as she panted through the contractions. She uncovered the camera and begged her captor to get her to a doctor. “Why would you do this to a woman and her unborn child?,” she yelled.

Abby in "Young and The Restless" 8/25/21

At the Chancellor house, Abby, Sharon, Devon, Tessa and Ben waited for Rey to call and let them know if the lead from the convenience store panned out. Abby wanted Sharon to call Rey, but Sharon explained that Rey had to run things by Paul first, and it’d take time to get permission to view private video footage. Abby said they were lucky Ben saw the guy. Devon asked where the convenience store was, and Ben answered. Devon recalled Ben saying he was staying at the GCAC before he left for Iowa. Devon asked what Ben was doing in the part of town where the convenience store was located. Ben admitted the market was out of his way, and he’d never been there before. He said after he and Abby went to look at an apartment for him, they went to the park, and after she left, he visited that pond they used to go to. By the time he left, it was late, so he stopped at the convenience store for snacks. Devon questioned Ben happening to be at the store at the exact same time as the person of interest. Ben said the guy came in after he did. Devon said that was pretty lucky, but Ben said not lucky enough, since it took him so long to put things together. Tessa was glad they had a lead now. Abby said, thanks to Ben, Rey was finally on the path that could bring them to Mariah.

Tessa felt restless, so she went to the kitchen, and Sharon joined her. Devon needed to make some calls, so Abby told him he could go to the study. Now Abby and Ben were alone. He hoped he didn’t make her uncomfortable when he mentioned taking the sentimental detour by their pond. It ddin’t make her upset. She used to love going to that pond. He hoped she took her son there one day. He quickly apologized, but she said it was okay and that she would take her baby there. He promised she’d be able to make all kinds of incredible memories with her boy. She said that was what she needed to hear. He said it meant so much to him reconnecting like this. She felt the same way. He had to go check in with Max’s care team, and he asked if she’d be okay. She said she’d be fine, and she went to the kitchen. Devon returned, and Ben him to call if Abby needed Ben. Devon said okay, and Ben left. Devon looked suspicious.

Later, Rey arrived and told everyone still at the house that he was waiting on a warrant for the convenience store footage. The wait was excruciating for Tessa. Rey said the good news was Paul gave him permission to set up surveillance at the store, in case this guy returned. They were also pulling all the traffic camera footage in the area so they could track this person to where they went after they left the store. He wanted to tell them this in person, but he had to get back to work. He promised he wouldn’t give up until Mariah was found.

Gloria and Lauren in "Young and The Restless" 8/25/21

At Society, Gloria met with Lauren and admitted that she got a bit aggressive at their meeting the other day, due to her enthusiasm getting the best of her. Kevin and Chloe arrived, and Gloria told them this was a business meeting. Chloe assured Gloria that they’d reserved a table of their own, and they walked away to a spot where they couldn’t help but overhear Lauren and Gloria. Lauren was willing to hear Gloria out. Gloria had studied the market, and she promised to anticipate trends and beat other companies. She swore she wouldn’t be reckless. She wanted to carry forward the work Summer and Sally started. Lauren asked if Gloria understood the target demo. Gloria did her research – young women wanted socially conscious environmentally friendly clothes. Lauren acknowledged that Gloria did her homework. Lauren asked if Gloria could pinpoint places to improve JCV. Gloria wanted to find a fashion forward designer who could improve their jewelry, because some young women might not be able to afford the whole line, but they could buy a necklace to make their outfit pop. Lauren said that was a good idea, and she mentioned that a lot of candidates were tripped up by the question. She gave Gloria the job on a trial basis. A grateful Gloria headed back to the office to dive back in.

Meanwhile, at their own table, Kevin told Chloe that according to Michael, Gloria wanted to be the head of JCV. Chloe realized that explained the way Gloria questioned Sally the other day. Kevin was waiting for an update on Mariah. Chloe was sure his friend could handle whatever happened to her. Lauren came over to tell Kevin and Chloe the news, but they already overheard. She asked if they thought she was crazy. Chloe thought it was a great idea. Kevin hoped Gloria didn’t drive Lauren crazy. Lauren said that’s why it was interim. It would take her some time to commit, after Sally. She wished Chloe had considered that before hiring her. Chloe wanted to agree to disagree. She went into this with her eyes wide open. She said they’d all made mistakes. Lauren said this went way beyond an error in judgment. Chloe said Chelsea was a grifter, and Chloe went off the rails after she lost her daughter. She sensed a kindred spirit in Sally, and she thought she deserved the chance to move her life forward. Lauren agreed with that in principle, but she didn’t think Sally was going to change.

Chloe in "Young and The Restless" 8/25/21

Lauren left. Kevin asked if Chloe was having doubts about Sally. Chloe was having doubts about a lot of people, including herself. She wondered what she was thinking believing she could stop Sally from going to the dark side. She brought up the situation with Chelsea – she loved Chelsea, but… She decided not to even get started on Adam. She wondered why she thought she, Chelsea and Adam could be the combined positive forces in Sally’s life. She thought about their rap sheets combined and said they were the legion of doom. He thought Adam was a super villain, but he didn’t think she gave herself enough credit. Kevin noted that he and Chloe had a colorful history, but they’d become upstanding citizens. He thought most people, besides Adam, were capable of change, and he advised her to keep thinking positive about Sally. Chloe mentioned that Sally said she was trying to forget seeking revenge on Phyllis and she was putting all her energy into her work. Chloe believed her. Kevin found out there was a lead on Mariah, so he left.

Back at the Chancellor house, Sharon said they might be getting closer to finding Mariah, but she still seemed so far away. Sharon asked if she could go up to Tessa and Mariah’s room so she could feel closer to her daughter. Tessa thought that was a wonderful idea, and they went upstairs.

Devon asked what Abby thought of Ben’s story about the man at the convenience station. Abby was caught off guard when she realized Devon was casting doubt on Ben’s statement. She asked why Ben would make something like that up. He wasn’t saying Ben was lying. Devon didn’t want to stress Abby, but he was suspicious, and he was telling her this because he cared. He thought they could all agree Ben’s story was pretty coincidental. He also thought it was a bit odd that Ben showed up out of the blue at this point in Abby’s life. He noted that Ben kept delaying his departure and showing up to see Abby, then he came back to town without having a job lined up. He thought Ben was going out of his way to be a shoulder for Abby to lean on while her husband was out of town. He couldn’t help but wonder if Ben was trying to get close to Abby or rekindle what they once had by taking advantage of the pain and fear she was feeling. Abby looked deep in thought.

Kevin and Rey met at Crimson Lights to go over the surveillance footage from the store. Rey said that Ben gave them a time frame to look through. Kevin said they just had to find Ben on the footage, then they could track him through the store, and that would lead them to the man they were after.

Jack and Phyllis in "Young and The Restless" 8/25/21

At the Abbott house, Jack told Phyllis that Summer loved her gift. She asked how Summer and Kyle were doing and how things were going with Harrison. Jack said it appeared that their kids were fantastic. He’d worked out the logistics with Kyle to do his job remotely, and Summer seemed to be shining at Marchetti. Phyllis claimed that she was happy, but Jack didn’t think she sounded like it. Phyllis swore she was thrilled, but she wanted Summer, Kyle and Harrison in Genoa City. She believed he felt the same way, and she asked why he couldn’t just admit this was a loss for him too. He said it wasn’t a loss – Kyle and Harrison were hours away by plane. She said it wasn’t the same. He confessed that this was a lot harder than he’d admitted, but he said they weren’t going to wallow. She moaned that she wanted mutual wallowing, but he said no.

Jack took Phyllis to the park and said to soak up the sun without focusing on the fact that they weren’t with their kids. She suggested Jabot buy Marchetti and move the offices to Genoa City. They laughed. She said it was nice to see him laugh, and he replied that it was nice to laugh. Sally walked up and mentioned that Jack and Phyllis were joined at the hip lately. Phyllis said they were friends – a friend was someone who you cared about and could trust. She was sure that was a foreign concept to Sally. Sally scoffed at the idea of Phyllis being trustworthy. Jack told Sally it was nice to see her, and he asked her to keep walking, so she did. Phyllis apologized. Jack wished they could rise above and be civil. He asked if she thought she could do that. She said she’d try not to let Sally get to her, and he decided that was good enough for now. She offered to buy him an iced coffee, and he accepted.

Victor told Nick that he was investigating what happened with Mariah. Nick appreciated that – Sharon was worried sick.

Ashland in "Young and The Restless" 8/25/21

Ashland was at home on the phone. Victoria walked in and overheard him wrapping up the call. He said he wasn’t surprised, as he’d expected this to happen at some point. Victoria asked what happened. Ashland said that a man who used to work at his first news station called to say that people had been contacting him to get information on Ashland. Victoria figured Billy was behind it. Ashland was thinking Newman Media might be doing some digging too. Victoria was sure Adam would do that to grab headlines. She added that Victor might be involved too. She noted that he was taking it in stride. He was used to people digging into his life, but he wanted her to hear things about his life from him. He sat her down and said years ago, when he was starting out, he worked for an older woman who mentored him in the media world. Her husband owned two news stations, and when he died, she took over. Years later, when she died, Ashland bought the stations from her and that’s how his empire started. Victoria appreciated hearing the truth from Ashland.

Back at the ranch, Victor had learned the same basic story that Ashland just shared with Victoria. He recounted it to Nikki and Nick, who didn’t think it sounded like a big deal. Victor said that there very few people were left who knew details about the relationship between Ashland and this woman, and those who did know were reluctant to talk. Nick said that it sounded like a non-issue to him – Victor’s PI didn’t have trouble finding this information, so clearly Ashland didn’t go through much trouble to cover it up. Nikki added that it wasn’t a crime to be an ambitious businessman. She thought they should accept that Victoria found a man who didn’t have any skeletons in his closet worth finding. Victor planned to keep investigating, and Nikki said that it was almost like he wanted to find something. She asked if he wanted to destroy Victoria’s marriage.

Victor was happy for Victoria, and he thought Ashland was a good man, but he didn’t want Victoria going into the marriage blindly. He said if they didn’t find anything, they could enjoy the wedding honestly. Nick said Phyllis warned him that this investigation could backfire. He saw the irony in that. His first instinct was to dig into Ashland’s past, then he asked himself what right they had to question Victoria’s choices. Nikki was also against the investigation. She said the worst case scenario was that Ashland died too soon. If Ashland had a dark past, that was then, this was now, and what was important was the man Ashland was today, Nikki saw it.

At their place, Victoria asked if Ashland had a more personal relationship with this woman, and he said no. The woman was lovely, bright and fun to be with, but it was nothing like what he and Victoria had. Victoria wasn’t threatened by something that took place decades ago. She was just interested in the path he took to become the man he was today. He wanted to tell her everything, and he was glad she’d be by his side for the next chapter of his life.

Sally went to Crimson Lights and overheard Nick call Phyllis and leave a message wondering if she wanted to meet for lunch. Sally said Phyllis was where she always was lately, with Jack.

Victoria showed up at the main house when Victor was there alone. She asked if he started an investigation into Ashland’s past. He asked if that would surprise her. She said that Ashland didn’t have anything to hide. Victor hoped that was true. Victoria said she and Victor had gotten to a good place, and she hoped that didn’t have to change. She asked him to leave this alone.

Billy: Why would I try and keep anything from you? You see through me better than anyone.

Lily: Okay, so maybe one day you’ll stop trying.

Amanda: Hey. You okay?

Elena: Yeah, yeah, just taking a minute to regroup.

Amanda: Well, you’re still in your scrubs. I hope that coffee’s not just a pick-me-up before your next shift. No offense, but you look exhausted.

Elena: Actually, it’s the opposite. I just got off of my shift, and this is chamomile tea. I am exhausted, but I’m also wired, so I’m trying to decompress and rest since I have to be back at it in less than eight hours.

Amanda: Oh, wow. Sounds like a tough week.

Elena: Yeah. Actually, they’ve all been tough lately. [Chuckles] I’ve been picking up extra shifts, so it’s really hard to find a rhythm. I don’t know why my name keeps ending up at the top of the assignment list.

Amanda: Well, Nate did tell me how much the other surgeons love having you scrub in to assist. He said that you have the best bedside manner on the staff and pretty much irreplaceable to them.

Transcript provided by Suzanne

Faith: Only a couple more weeks before school starts.

Sharon: Is that excitement i hear in your voice about going back to school?

Faith: I know that I should be dreading the end of summer vacation, but this year already feels so much better than the last.

Sharon: It’s good to hear.

Faith: Having a friend like moses in my corner really helps, and I just feel like I’m able to deal with things better, you know?

Sharon: Like the bullies? Have you thought about what will happen if they start up again?

Faith: I can deal with them this time. I feel more mature and safe. Does that sound crazy?

Sharon: No, not at all.

Faith: Mom, are you okay?

Sharon: Yeah, I’m — I’m just happy that you’re in a good place.

Faith: I am planning to stay there. But right now, I’ve got to go meet moses. Oh! Mom, one more thing. Have you heard from mariah lately? I know you said she was taking time for herself, but she barely responds to my texts.

Sharon: She just needed a break. I’m sure she’ll be home soon. I don’t know how much longer i can keep this up.

Abby: I understand. I will stand by my phone. Okay, thanks.

Stitch: That didn’t sound like good news. Was that rey?

Abby: No, it was my dad, actually. He said his security has no new leads. Rey checked in earlier with pretty much the same news.

Stitch: I can see how hard this is on you.

Abby: But thank you for checking in, but we need to be concerned with mariah. We don’t even know what kind of condition that she’s in. We don’t know if they’re taking good care of her, whoever “they” are. We don’t know if she’s getting the nutritious food that she and the baby need to stay strong and healthy. And if something goes wrong, we don’t know if they’re gonna get the help that they need.

Mariah: [ Exhales sharply ] Ah. Huh! Oh. I’m sorry for all the bouncing around, bowie, but we need to keep in shape. Because if that door opens even a crack, I am bolting out of here so fast they’ll never see me coming.

Nate: Hey, what’s going on? Is moses around?

Devon: He’s upstairs, probably gonna be taking off soon, though.

Nate: Okay. I just wanted to touch base with him again after our last conversation.

Devon: Shoot, man, he really switched things up on us, didn’t he?

Nate: Yeah. Got to admit, part of me is a little disappointed he’s not going into medicine. I was really looking forward to dropping some gems on him, but his life, his career.

Devon: Yeah, man, you know, he’s — at the end of the day, he’s got to do what makes him happy.

Nate: True, true. I’m just glad he’s focused on something else. Plus, he’s got another great mentor to guide him.

Devon: [ Chuckles ] You think I’m up to it?

Nate: I do. Moses losing his father, you know, was hard on him, but he’s becoming a young man right before our very eyes. A lot of that’s thanks to you.

Devon: I appreciate that, man. Same to you. Really. And sofia’s done her part well. Should give her a call and have her come out here and visit.

Moses: Whoa, now, please don’t ask my mom to come out here.

Devon: Why not?

Moses: Because then she’d want to take me back to new york with her.

Traci: Okay, I’ve told you all about new york. It’s your turn. How did it go in milan? What happened?

Jack: I can barely describe how happy kyle was to see his son.

Traci: And summer? How is she handling everything?

Jack: Summer seemed really excited to start her new life with harrison. I got the impression she was looking forward to being his stepmom. Yeah, the feeling was I was seeing the beginning of something very special.

Traci: Oh, and what a beautiful little family they will make.

Jack: Yeah, and to my surprise, ashland didn’t put up that much of a fight. I think he really thought things through and realized this is what’s best for harrison. And I respect that a lot. I think it’s gonna be hard for ashland with that little boy so far away.

Traci: I have a feeling that ashland isn’t the only one who’s gonna find this difficult.

Jack: Yeah, given the circumstances, it’s gonna be perhaps more difficult for tara.

Traci: No, I was talking about you, jack. Look, I know that you have tried to paint harrison’s move to italy in the very best possible light, but I can see that you’re missing him already. I have a feeling that ashland isn’t the only one who’s made some sacrifices.

Billy: Why would I try and keep anything from you? You see through me better than anyone.

Lily: Okay, so maybe one day you’ll stop trying.

Billy: Look, I am trying to find out anything I can on ashland, anything to make victoria second-guess this decision to marry ashland because i think it’s a mistake for her and for johnny and katie, and I’m in a position to do something about it.

Lily: Billy, come on.

Billy: Come on, I know you don’t like it when I speak that way, but that’s just the way it is. If I can find something, anything, to make it a deal-breaker for victoria, that would be good.

Lily: And you’re okay with doing that, even though you reassured her that you fine with her marrying ashland.

Billy: [ Sighs ] Well, if I don’t find anything, then she doesn’t know I’m looking, so no harm, no foul.

Lily: And if you do find something?

Billy: Then she could be angry, or she could be relieved that she and the kids dodged a bullet, which, in that case, she would be in my debt forever.

Lily: [ Scoffs ] Oh, yeah. Dream on. I just heard something amazing!

Moses: I hate to admit it, but I’ve dodged a couple of calls from my mom the past few days.

Devon: And why have you done that?

Moses: Because when I talk to her, I’m gonna have to explain why I’m no longer interested in doing a career in medicine.

Nate: Okay, don’t you think she’ll understand?

Moses: Medicine was the whole point in me moving to genoa city in the first place. I mean, I was supposed to learn everything I could from you to become a doctor.

Nate: What are you afraid of, that she’ll pull the plug on you living here?

Moses: Before, there was a reason for it.

Devon: There still is a reason for it. I’m gonna be able to share with you everything I know about the music industry.

Moses: I don’t think that’s gonna be enough to sell my mom on it. I mean, she was so excited by the fact of me becoming a doctor. And don’t take this the wrong way, but to her, there is a big difference from becoming a doctor versus getting a job in the entertainment industry.

Devon: I understand that, for sure, but it’s still a job that requires hard work and dedication. And it shouldn’t be about how difficult the job is, it’s about what you’re passionate for. I’d be more than happy to have a conversation with your mom if you want me to.

Moses: Really?

Devon: Yeah, really. I’ve been in your shoes before. Neil hated the fact that i wanted to get into music. He wanted me to stay doing business.

Moses: So, what’d you do?

Devon: I worked really hard and I showed him that I was serious about it, and then he eventually came around.

Moses: Cool. And you’re really okay with talking to my mom about this?

Devon: Absolutely, yeah.

Nate: We know how much you want to stay here. For all sorts of reasons.

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Moses: Here we go.

Devon: Yes, like faith newman reasons, huh?

[ Laughs ] No, but listen, this call to your mom comes with strings.

Moses: Okay. Let me have it.

Devon: You’re gonna have to follow up and own this decision and let her know that you’re excited about it, too.

Moses: Yeah.

Devon: Got it?

Moses: Yeah, definitely.

Nate: Well, okay. Now that we’ve got that settled, I’d better get going.

Devon: Yeah, you too famous to hang out with the little people in your life these days?

Moses: Yeah, nate, doesn’t seem like you have much time for us anymore, now that you’re the man.

Nate: Oh, yeah. Wrong. I’ll be around so much you’ll get sick of me. But this isn’t about the new job. It’s about filling a gap that just opened.

Devon: Alright. We’ll see you.

Moses: Okay.

[ Chuckles ]

Abby: [ Sighs ] It’s tough waking up feeling just as helpless as I did when i went to bed last night.

Stitch: Abby, you can’t let this thing get to you. You got to stay positive.

Abby: Well, I’m trying. And I keep praying that I’m gonna get some phone call from devon or rey or my dad saying that there’s been some lead that’s gonna bring mariah and the baby home, but, no, everyone just keeps hitting dead ends.

Stitch: With all the people looking for her, something’s bound to turn up.

Abby: I just really hope that mariah knows how much I care about her.

Stitch: Of course she does. Why would she think otherwise?

Abby: Because she’s somewhere, and she’s probably feeling helpless and she’s definitely feeling alone and maybe she feels like I abandoned her.

Stitch: Abby, that is your guilt talking. No one’s more in her corner than you are.

Abby: Oh, they’re mariah’s favorites. I always keep extras in my purse.

Stitch: I’ve seen these before.

Abby: They’re recommended by her doctor, so maybe you saw them at the hospital you worked at?

Stitch: No, it was around here. I think I might have a lead.

Sharon: Maybe I should have leveled with faith about mariah. The two of them are so close, it just doesn’t feel right to keep her out of the loop.

Rey: Come on, sharon, we talked about this before, and you said you didn’t want to worry her without being able to give her something positive, like a reason to believe that mariah’s gonna be okay, coming home soon.

Sharon: You’re right.

[ Cellphone rings ] Hey. Have you guys heard anything?

Abby: Are you with rey?

Sharon: Yes.

Abby: The two of you should come to the house immediately. (Vo) nature…

[ Chuckles ] I’ve been picking up extra shifts, so it’s really hard to find a rhythm. I don’t know why my name keeps ending up at the top of the assignment list.

Amanda: Well, nate did tell me how much the other surgeons love having you scrub in to assist. He said that you have the best bedside manner on the staff and pretty much irreplaceable to them.

Elena: Well, trust me, I am no wonder woman, but, yeah, i think everyone is pretty happy with my work. Which is why I still can’t seem to get a break.

[ Chuckles ]

Amanda: Well, there’s only one way to fix that problem.

Elena: Yeah, what?

Amanda: You need to commit yourself to being horrible at your job. Make sure that no one wants you around.

Elena: [ Laughs ] You’re funny.

Amanda: But I’m pretty sure that we can agree that you can’t do that. So I think you may have to resign yourself to a permanent state of near exhaustion.

Elena: Ugh. You sure know how to cheer a girl up.

Amanda: I try.

Elena: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: You are very perceptive as ever. That’s what makes you such a good writer.

Traci: Well, I am very sorry that you are missing harrison, but I might be able to offer some distraction.

Jack: Oh, what have you got?

Traci: It’s flattering that you think I’m very talented, but every writer needs constructive criticism. How would you like to take a look at what I’m working on?

Jack: What’s it about?

Traci: It is a fictional account of dina’s early days in high society paris. Od read.

Traci: Well, we’ll see. So you can just maybe do the first four or five pages. You know, if I haven’t got a reader by then, I better go back to the drawing board to start over.

Jack: Yeah, yeah, five pages is my max, and then I got to get back to work, you know?

Traci: Oh, of course. I’ll take what I can get.

Jack: Okay.

Traci: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: [ Laughs ]

Traci: Jack? Oh! I’m so sorry to interrupt. You’re gonna have to put it down long enough to take me out to lunch.

Jack: Wait, when did you change clothes?

Traci: I guess you got a little carried away, you know, on pages four and five.

Jack: Yeah, yeah, I, uh — i guess I did. Your book is terrific. It’s fun, it’s exciting, it’s — it’s just the kind of spirit-lifter I needed, and… how did you know?

Traci: I know you. And I thank my lucky stars for that every single day.

[ Laughs ]

Moses: Hey.

Faith: What are you listening to?

Moses: Oh, tigirlily, of course.

Faith: I still can’t believe we got to hang out with them.

Moses: Yeah. What’s in the bag?

Faith: A test. Well, more like a pop quiz.

Moses: For who, me?

Faith: That would be yes. Tuesday, may 4th — what happened on that day?

Moses: Uh…that has to be right around the time you were in the hospital.

Faith: You’re getting warm.

Moses: Okay, so it was one of the first few days I was volunteering with nate. Oh, I know, we were playing chess.

Faith: Ding, ding, ding! Correct.

Moses: What is this pop quiz all about?

Faith: Well, I don’t know if you remember, but we recently shared a kiss.

Moses: Trust me, there’s no way I forgot about that.

Faith: Well, just to let you know, I don’t kiss just anyone. They have to be someone I really care about and he has to care about me enough to remember important times that we shared together.

Moses: Down to the exact date?

Faith: Yep.

Moses: Okay. Well, I guess I have no choice, then.

Faith: I promise it’ll be a fun walk down memory lane.

Moses: But what if I’m not good at dates? What if I fail? What, that’s it? We’re over before we even begin?

Faith: No pressure, right?

Nate: Hey.

Lily: Hey.

Nate: Got a minute?

Lily: For you, always. That’s so funny. You must’ve read my mind, ’cause I was just about to call you.

Nate: Oh, about what?

Lily: Well, the data just came in on askmdnow’s performance metrics, and I think you will be very pleased with the numbers.

Nate: I’ll be happy to take a look, but I think it’s gonna be a little bittersweet.

Lily: What do you mean? You like working on the site, right? I mean, the data shows that you’re a huge hit.

Nate: Honestly, I love being the resident expert, but the problem is I’ve been promoted at the hospital. I’m the new chief of surgery.

Lily: What? Nate, that’s amazing. Congratulations.

Nate: Thank you. It’s something I’ve always wanted, and I’m ready to take on the responsibilities. But I know I’m gonna be on overload, so that’s why I’m here today — to help you find my replacement.

Jack: I couldn’t put it down. It is the very definition of a page-turner. I was sucked right in from page one.

Traci: Well, I may have gotten a little carried away, you know, imagining what it might have been like to be dina when she was young and wild.

Jack: Absolutely captured her spirit. I’m telling you, this is going to be another best-seller for you as soon as it hits the stands.

Billy: Hey, you two. Hi, traci.

Traci: Billy, honey, hi! It’s so great to see you, too.

Jack: Our sister is working on her latest novel. I just got a sneak peek, and let me tell you —

Traci: Oh, stop, jack. I’m gonna have to rope billy into reading it, too, just like I did with you.

Billy: I would love to, just not today. I got a busy day. After a full day of work, we have a game night with the kids. Trying to keep them busy while they’re staying with us.

Traci: Well, that sounds like a lot of fun.

Billy: Yeah.

Traci: I see an old friend of mine. I’m gonna go say hello for just a second, okay?

Billy: Sure.

Traci: Be right back. Excuse me.

Billy: Ah.

Jack: So, are you and lily still pursuing a story about tara locke’s arrest?

Billy: Come on, we told you that we can’t ignore a story of this magnitude simply because it involves our family. But I will say that we are working on another story altogether, more specifically about ashland. We’re doing a deep dive into his life and seeing if there’s anything we haven’t uncovered yet.

Jack: Oh, good, that will end well.

Abby: Hey, thanks for coming right over.

Rey: Hey.

Abby: Ben, start from the beginning. They need to hear this.

Stitch: Okay, this could be nothing at all, but abby pulled this protein bar out of her purse, and it jogged my memory. The last time I was leaving town to go back to iowa, I stopped in this little convenience store. While I was shopping, I remember a guy buying these same bars — the ones that abby says were mariah’s favorite protein snack.

Abby: They’re specifically marketed to expectant mothers.

Stitch: Guy was buying a whole bunch of them, like he was stocking up for the long haul.

Rey: Okay, um, not sure how that adds up to an actual lead.

Abby: Go on, finish telling them what you told me.

Stitch: Okay, well, I only remembered the encounter because it struck me kind of strange. I thought maybe he was buying them for his pregnant wife, but this guy, he was a much older man. He sure wasn’t giving off an expectant dad vibe to me.

Rey: Do you remember what he looked like?

Stitch: He had gray hair, average height. I think he was wearing a button-down.

Abby: Stitch didn’t realize that there could be a connection to mariah until today.

Sharon: Do you think that man was buying those bars for mariah?

Abby: It’s possible, right?

Find your rhythm.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Faith: Okay, last one. Get this one wrong, and all the other right answers get thrown out.

Moses: What? No fair.

Faith: It’s my pop quiz. I make the rules. August 6th.

Moses: Uh…that one’s not ringing any bells. All I can think of is that was, like, a few days after the concert.

Faith: Nothing? No idea?

Moses: Well, give me a hint.

Faith: I already gave you a hint — august 6th.

Moses: Thanks.

Faith: Give up?

Moses: Yeah. Tell me.

Faith: It was the day that you gave me the pressed vinyl copy of the concert.

Moses: No fair. I feel like I’m losing on a technicality.

Faith: Technicality or not, you still didn’t know the answer.

Moses: Wait, faith. Hold on. Here’s what you need to know. I like you, faith, a lot. I’ve let you set all the rules. I’ve tried not to pressure you, but it’s been impossible pretending like I was okay with just being friends. No, I want to hang out, go places together, and just be with you. That’s what I want, not what i expect. But the thing is, I mean, you gave me this feeling all the way back on may 4th when we were playing chess together, and i can’t seem to let it go.

Faith: There was something so special about the vinyl record that you gave me that day. The note from kendra and krista that told me that I needed to hang on to you because you’re a keeper. And I agree. ‘Cause this last year, everything seemed to go wrong, but then everything went right for me in a way, too. Because I’m still here and I’m healthy. And you stuck by me through it all. And all of those things that you say that you want to do, I want to do them, too.

Moses: So does that mean i pass?

Lily: Oh, man, well, I guess it would be pointless to try to change your mind. I mean, a job this important with this kind of responsibility definitely should take priority.

Nate: Well, I’m glad you understand.

Lily: Yeah, and I’m so proud of you, honestly. I’ve always wanted this kind of success for you, even if I have to swallow my own disappointment.

Nate: Hey. [ Chuckles ] If I thought I could make it work, I would, but after going over it and over it in my head, I realize I needed to give you my notice.

Lily: I know. I understand. There’s no hard feelings.

Nate: Listen, I know you’re committed to keeping askmdnow going with or without me. It’s helping so many people, and I’m just a small part of it.

Lily: No, I mean, the hard part is gonna be finding someone to replace you, ’cause, you know, you’re a tough act to follow. You got the brilliance and the good looks in one package.

Nate: Thank you. But I think I know someone who has all that and more. Mind if I throw out a name?

Lily: No, please do.

Nate: Okay, now, you don’t have to make this decision right away. Just think about it. But I think this person would be an amazing choice.

Lily: Okay.

Nate: Elena.

Lily: Oh. Yeah, that’s actually an interesting suggestion.

Amanda: Well, I hope that did the trick.

Elena: [ Sighs ] You know? It didn’T.

[ Both laugh ] I’m still exhausted and wired.

Amanda: I really think you’re just worn out.

Elena: Yeah, yeah. But I better stop stalling. I need to get back upstairs and force myself to go to sleep before my shift.

Amanda: Are you sure that there’s no one at the hospital who can lighten your workload?

Elena: No, I’m fine. I’ll probably just suck it up and hope that my schedule gets better.

Amanda: As long as you don’t pass out from exhaustion first.

Elena: Oh, I was probably just over-exaggerating. Really, I’m fine. See you.

Amanda: Yeah.

Rey: Look, I know we need a lead right now, but I got to say, this feels a little thin. Just because the man that stitch saw was an older man doesn’t mean he wasn’t a father-to-be or maybe a grandfather-to-be.

Tessa: I thought the same thing.

Sharon: Stitch, do you remember anything else about that encounter?

Stitch: Like I said, I wasn’t looking for a criminal that day, so I didn’t commit much of it to memory. The guy just stuck out to me. That’s pretty much all i remember.

Abby: Please, any memory from that day might help.

Stitch: [ Sighs ] The only other thing I remember was the shopping list the guy had. He dropped it, I picked it up, and handed it to him.

Rey: Okay, was there something else on that list that seemed significant?

Stitch: [ Sighs ] I didn’t pay much attention to it. All I remember was the notepaper itself. It had these little storks on it and they were carrying babies in their pouches.

[ Chuckles ] Sorry, I know that doesn’t mean anything.

Tessa: Was it yellow?

Stitch: Yeah. Yeah, I think it was. Why?

Tessa: I gave one just like that to mariah. She keeps it in her purse and takes it everywhere. Counting your veggies can be hard.

Moses: So I’ll take that smile on your face to mean I got an a-plus on your little quiz.

Faith: [ Chuckles ] I don’t know about that “plus” thing. You did miss one question, remember?

Moses: Okay, okay. How about I make you a deal? I’ll throw out a date, and if you get it right, we both get a’S. Cool?

Faith: I’m game.

Moses: August 13th.

Faith: Oh, that’s easy. I remember that date by heart. How could I ever forget our first kiss?

Moses: Yeah. And I bet your dad won’t forget either. He seemed real curious about what was going on between us.

Faith: At least we both know now.

Moses: You know what I want to do?

Faith: Tell me.

Moses: How about we go on a real date? I mean, the concert was cool, but it wasn’t an actual date. I could plan something special, pull it all together, and surprise you.

Faith: I would love that. I can’t wait. [ Chuckles ]

Billy: Oh, come on, jack. What’s wrong with a little investigation? Ashland locke is a self-made man. The question is, how did he make himself? My intuition is telling me that it’s not a very pretty story, so I’ll examine his life a little bit.

Jack: Oh, billy.

Billy: Hi, welcome back.

Traci: Oh, thank you. What did I miss?

Jack: Oh, not much. Our little brother here is out digging up dirt on ashland locke, a man famous for destroying anyone who crosses him.

Traci: Really? Why?

Billy: Oh, it’s okay. Just relax. Ashland locke is a big boy. He can handle whatever we throw at him.

Jack: I was a little more concerned about how this might affect victoria — you know, the mother of your children.

Billy: Yes, and I understand your concern, but let’s look at the upside here. Maybe we uncover something that makes victoria second-guess this mistake she’s about to make. Hey, maybe she even thanks me.

Traci: Billy, do you — do you really believe that? I mean, how would you feel if someone were slinging mud at lily?

Billy: Oh, you can’t compare the two. Lily’s an open book. She’s got nothing to hide.

Jack: I have a question. This mistake you’re worried victoria’s about to make, is this marrying someone with a terminal illness or marrying someone like ashland locke?

Billy: Can’t it be both? Excuse me, my food is ready. Good to see you.

Traci: Mm.

Billy: Thanks, jack.

Tessa: I can’t fight the feeling that this is significant.

Abby: The same notepad, the same protein bars that mariah likes. It can’t just be a coincidence. There’s got to be something there.

Rey: Alright, alright. Stitch, I need you to dig deep now. Any little thing. Doesn’t matter if you don’t think it’s important. The smallest detail could be significant. Alright, go back through your mind over everything that happened, step by step.

Stitch: I’ll do my best.

Rey: And I’m gonna need the name and the location of the store and the time and date you were there and anything that you can conjure up about this man that you saw. Maybe we’ll get lucky and the convenience store has some security footage we can get our hands on.

Sharon: If this guy really was shopping for mariah, at least we can assume that she’s being fed and taken care of. I mean, buying her the protein bars that she likes is a good sign that they’re at least giving her what she needs on some level.

Abby: Thank god you remember this, stitch. This is the first good lead that we’ve had. You are a hero.

Stitch: Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Devon: Hey, what’s going on?

Abby: A couple of hours ago, I was struggling to hold on to even a sliver of hope. Not anymore.

Mariah: [ Sighs ] Alright, bowie, what do you say? Up for some more aerobics? Ah. Got to break up the boredom of staring at these four walls, so…

[ Gasps ] What was that? Oh!

[ Inhales sharply ]

The snapshot app from

progressive rewards you

Traci: [ Sighs ] Well, I failed.

Jack: At what?

Traci: I got you out of your mood for a little while, but it did not last. Was it the encounter with billy or are you missing harrison?

Jack: Oh, maybe a little of both. Harrison’s where he needs to be. I’m fine.

Traci: [ Sighs ] If this were anybody else, i would tell them, you know, take a break, step back, take the time to recharge. But you are your father’s son. If this had happened to dad, he would throw himself more deeply into his work.

Jack: Look, with my co-ceo having moved to italy, I’m gonna have my hands full just divvying up the workload and keeping the company moving forward in the process.

Traci: That’s not what i meant.

Jack: I know what you meant. And thank you. Just focus on finishing your fabulous new book. And if you’re looking for somebody to worry about, billy’s a good choice these days.

Traci: [ Chuckles ]

[ Sighs ]

Billy: Hey, there. Here’s your lunch. You go on without me. I got some work to do.

Lily: Oh, I can tell by that little gleam in your eye the work has to do with ashland.

Billy: Well, I did get some interesting information from one of the reporters I have on the story. Turns out ashland locke was involved with an older woman back in the day before tara. The information is a little sketchy and there’s not much in the nature of their relationship, but this is when he first started when he was in his 20s and she was north of that, let’s say. And she was also very wealthy.

Lily: Okay, I mean, that’s not that compelling, and to be honest, a little ageist. So is this really worth reporting?

Billy: Oh, I know, it’s not exactly earth-shattering, but i believe there’s more to it. And trust me, if there is, I’m gonna find it.

Rey: Hey, let’s see if that convenience store has a surveillance system. If so, we got to grab the footage from that day that i told you about. Also, let’s get some eyes over there. Let’s keep a lookout for an older man who would be buying supplies that a pregnant woman might need.

Sharon: Thank you, stitch. Just imagine if you hadn’t seen abby take that protein bar out of her purse earlier.

Tessa: We may have never made this connection.

Abby: [ Sighs ] It feels like we’re finally getting somewhere.

Devon: Yeah, it does, it does. Um, I have a bit of an update for you.

Abby: You have some information?

Devon: Well, I reached out to christine today about getting that message to chance.

Abby: Did she get through to him?

Devon: She didn’t, not yet, but it’s still a work-in-progress. She’s still putting in the effort. Just hopefully it’ll be soon.

Abby: [ Sighs ] Can you imagine? Hopefully mariah will be home before chance returns, and our precious baby will be safe. It would be a dream come true.

Mariah: Keep calm. Don’t overreact. And enough with the aerobics. Okay? It’s fine if you get out of shape. It’s just fine. There’s nobody to see you anyway. There’s nobody here to make fun of you. Oh! Ah! Oh! Oh, no. Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no. No, no. Mm! Mm! No, these can’t be contractions. They can’t be contractions. It’s too soon. Oh.

[ Groaning ] Oh, it’s too soon.

Sharon in "Young and The Restless" 8/24/21

Nate went to Devon’s hoping to see Moses. Devon said his brother was upstairs, but he was probably taking off soon. Nate just wanted to touch base with his cousin again. He admitted he was a little disappointed Moses wasn’t going into medicine, but it was his life. Nate thought that Devon would be a great mentor to Moses. He said losing Neil was hard on Moses, but he was growing into a young man now, and a lot of that was thanks to Devon. Devon gave Nate and Sofia credit too. Moses came down and overheard Devon suggest inviting Sofia out to visit. Moses didn’t want that because he thought his mom would want to take him back to NY.

Moses admitted that he’d been dodging his mom’s calls the past few days because he didn’t want to explain why he stopped pursuing a career in medicine. He said she was so excited about him becoming a doctor, and to her, there was a big difference between being a doctor and being in the entertainment industry. Devon understood that, but the job still required hard work and dedication. He offered to have that conversation with Sofia. He said that Neil wanted him to go into business, not music, but Devon was able to get him to come around. Nate and Devon knew Faith was one of the reasons Moses wanted to stay. Devon said he’d make the call to Sofia, but Moses would have to follow up with her and let her know he was excited about this decision. Nate had to go. Devon and Moses teased him about not being too famous to spend time with the little people anymore. He said he’d be around a lot, but right now he had to go fill a gap that just opened.

Ben was at Abby’s. She told him that Rey and Victor both checked in, but neither had any new leads on Mariah. Ben was concerned for Abby, but she thought they should be focusing on Mariah, because they had no idea what conditions she was in right now, whether she and the baby were getting nutritious food and whether they’d get the help they needed if something went wrong. Ben urged Abby to stay positive. With all the people looking for Mariah, a lead was bound to turn up. Abby just hoped Mariah knew how much Abby cared about her. Ben said of course she did, but Abby worried that Mariah felt abandoned by Abby. When Abby went through her purse for a tissue, she pulled out a Maternity brand protein bar. Ben picked it up, and Abby said that she always kept a few in her purse because Mariah liked them. Ben said he saw Maternity bars before.

Mariah in "Young and The Restless" 8/24/21

Mariah exercised in her room and confided to Bowie that if the door even opened a crack, she was going to bolt. Mariah had a pile of the protein bars Ben recognized. She ate one then got up to do more aerobics. She suddenly grabbed her belly and said “what was that?” She inhaled sharply. To her horror, the sensation happened again, and she realized she might be going into early labor.

At Crimson Lights, Faith surprised Sharon by being excited for school to start in a few weeks. Faith knew she should dread the end of summer vacation, but this year already felt better than the last. Having a friend like Moses in her corner helped. She thought she could deal with the bullies this time, because she felt more mature and safe. Faith noticed something was off with Sharon and asked if she was okay. Sharon assured her daughter that everything was fine. Before Faith left for her meeting with Moses, she asked if Sharon heard from Mariah lately. As Rey walked in, Faith said she knew Mariah was taking some time to herself, but she barely responded to texts. Sharon pretended all was well, and Faith left. Sharon second guessed her decision to keep Faith in the dark about the situation with Mariah. Rey reminded Sharon that she’d decided not to worry Faith without being able to give her something positive, like a reason to believe Mariah would be okay. Abby called and told Sharon and Rey to come over right away.

Back at the Chancellor house, Ben told Tessa, Abby, Sharon and Rey that the last time he was in Genoa City, he saw a guy buying a whole bunch of maternity protein bars. Rey didn’t think that was much of a lead. Abby urged Ben to tell Sharon and Rey what he’d told her. Ben said this guy was an older man who could’ve been buying them for his wife, but Ben didn’t get an “expectant father” vibe from him. Rey asked for a description. Ben said he was average height with gray hair, and he was wearing a button down. Rey said just because this guy was older didn’t mean he wasn’t a father-to-be, or perhaps grandfather-to-be. Tessa thought the same thing. Sharon asked if Ben remembered anything else about that encounter. Ben recalled that the guy had a shopping list written on paper with storks on it. The guy dropped it, and Ben picked it up and handed it back. Tessa looked hopeful and asked if it was yellow, and Ben said he thought so. Tessa gave Mariah a notepad just like that, and Mariah kept it in her purse.

Rey, who now thought this was a promising lead, instructed Ben to dig deep and tell him every little detail he could remember, no matter how insignificant it seemed. Rey also wanted to know the name and location of this store and the time and the date of the encounter. He hoped they’d get lucky and the store had security footage. Sharon said that if this man had Mariah, buying the protein bars she liked was a good sign that he was taking care of her needs on some level. Elated by the lead, Abby called Ben a hero. Devon showed up. Rey made some phone calls to the station about Ben’s information. Sharon thanked Ben. Across the room, Devon said Christine hadn’t gotten in touch with Chance yet, but she was working on it. Abby hoped that Mariah would be home before Chance returned and their precious baby would be safe. Ben looked over at Abby.

Faith and Moses met at the park. She’d made a pop quiz for him, and she asked what they were doing on May 4th. After some thought, he said they were played chess in her hospital room. She noted that they shared their first kiss recently, and she only kissed people she cared about, and they had to care about her enough to remember important times they shared together. She promised this trip down memory lane would be fun, but he looked nervous and asked what if he wasn’t good at dates and failed. She looked at him, and he sensed they’d be over if he failed. “No pressure right?,” she asked, and he grinned at her.

Moses got all the questions right, but Faith said that all his right answers would be thrown out if he didn’t know this last one. He didn’t think that was fair, but she said she made the rules. She asked what happened August 6th. He was stumped, though he knew it was a few days after the concert. She said it was the day that he gave her the pressed vinyl copy of the concert. She got up to leave, since he didn’t know the answer. He said he liked her a lot, and he let her set all the rules and he tried not to pressure her, but it was impossible to pretend he was okay with just being friends. He wanted to spend time with her. “It’s what I want, not what I expect,” he said. He said she gave him this feeling all the way back on May 4th when they were playing chess. Faith thought there was something so special about the vinyl record. It had a note from Kendra and Krista saying she should hold onto Moses. She said the last year went so wrong, but in a way it went right because she was still here and healthy, and he stuck by her through it all. She wanted to spend time with him too. He asked if that meant he passed. Moses thought Faith’s smile meant he got an A+ on her quiz, but she said he missed a question. He said he had a question, and if she got it right, they’d both get As. He asked what happened on August 13th. That was easy for her – she’d never forget their first kiss. He didn’t think Nick would forget either. Moses suggested that he and Faith go on a real date, and she loved the idea.

Traci and Jack were at the Abbott house. He told her how excited Kyle and Summer were to have Harrison. He respected Ashland for doing what was best for the child, even though it would be hard to have Harrison so far away. Traci knew Jack was putting a positive spin on Harrison’s move, but she could tell he missed him already. He said she was very perceptive, which made her a good writer. She asked him to take a look at the book she was working on, which was a fictional account of Dina’s early days at high society in Paris. She only needed him to look at the first few pages. He said he could do a maximum of five before he had to go back to work. Jack became engrossed in the book, and Traci smiled knowingly as he devoured it. Eventually, she interrupted to ask him to take her to lunch, and he was shocked by how much time had passed. He asked how she knew this book was just what he needed. “I know you. And I thank my lucky stars for that every single day,” she said. They hugged.

At work, Billy asked why he’d try and keep things from Lily when she saw through him better than anyone. She suggested that one day he’d stop trying. He admitted he was trying to find something on Ashland that would make Victoria second guess the marriage, which Billy thought would be a mistake for Victoria, Johnny and Katie. Lily pointed out that Billy assured Victoria that he accepted her engagement. He said that if he didn’t find anything, Victoria would never know he’d investigated Ashland, so no harm, no foul. However, if he did find something, Victoria could be angry, or she could be relieved she and the kids dodged a bullet, in which case she’d be indebted to him forever. Lily scoffed and said to dream on.

Jack and Traci were at Society, and he told her that her book would be a bestseller. He thought her writing captured the spirit of their mother. Billy happened to come up, and Jack told him about the book. Billy wanted to read it, but not now, because he and Lily were having a game night with the kids. Traci stepped away to go chat with an old friend. Jack asked if ChancComm was still pursuing the story on Tara’s arrest. Billy said they couldn’t ignore a story of that magnitude just because it involved their family. He mentioned that they were working on a story that would be a deep dive into Ashland’s background. Jack didn’t think that would end well. Billy didn’t see anything wrong with an investigation. Traci returned, and Jack said their little brother was digging up dirt on Ashland, a man famous for destroying anyone who crossed him. Traci asked why Billy was doing it. Jack was concerned with how this would affect Victoria. Billy hoped to uncover something that would make Victoria second-guess this mistake she was making. Traci asked how Billy would feel if someone was slinging mud at Lily, and he said that was different because Lily was an open book. Jack wondered if this mistake Victoria was about to make was marrying someone with a terminal illness or marrying someone like Ashland. Billy didn’t see why it couldn’t be both.

Jack in "Young and The Restless" 8/24/21

Jack and Traci went back home, and she noticed that he was back in his mood. She asked if it was Harrison or Billy, and he said a little of both. He knew Harrison was where he belonged though, and he said he was fine. She said she’d tell anyone else to step back and recharge, but Jack was their father’s son, and she knew he wouldn’t do that. Traci said John would’ve thrown himself more deeply into work. Jack said he had his hands full now that his his co-CEO was in Italy. He told her to focus on finishing her fabulous new book, and if she was looking for someone to worry about, Billy was a good choice. He left the room, and she looked concerned.

Nate in "Young and The Restless" 8/24/21

Nate met Lily in her office. She told him that the numbers for AskMDNow were excellent, and he was a huge hit. He told her that was bittersweet for him. He’d been promoted to chief of surgery at the hospital, and he didn’t have the time to be the face of the site anymore. He was there to help her find a replacement. She was disappointed, but she understood, and she was proud of him for reaching this level of success. She said he’d be hard to replace – he had the good looks and brilliance in one package. He thought he knew someone who had all that and more – Elena. She thought that was an interesting idea. After Nate left, Billy brought Lily lunch and told her that he had work to do. The gleam in his eye told her it had to do with Ashland. A reporter had informed Billy that Ashland was involved with an older woman before he met Tara. There weren’t many details on this relationship except that she’d been very wealthy and Ashland had been in his 20s at the time. Lily said that wasn’t compelling, and it was a little ageist. Billy sensed there was more to it, and he was going to find it.

Elena was at Crimson Lights taking a minute to regroup when Amanda walked over. Noting that Elena looked exhausted and was still in scrubs, Amanda hoped that she wasn’t about to go to the hospital. Elena said her shift was over. She was trying to decompress with chamomile tea because she had to go back to work in less than eight hours. Things had been tough lately, as Elena had been picking up extra shifts. She didn’t know why her name kept ending up at the top of the assignment list. According to Amanda, Nate said the surgeons loved having Elena assist because she had the best bedside manner on the staff. Amanda joked that Elena should become terrible at her job so that no one would request her.

Elena finished her tea, but she said she was still tired and wired. Amanda thought Elena was just worn out. Elena said she had to go upstairs and force herself to sleep. Amanda asked if nobody at the hospital could lighten Elena’s workload. Elena said she was fine, but Amanda was concerned. Elena went upstairs.

Adam: Good morning, Sally.

Sally: Yeah? What’s good about it?

Adam: Wow, that’s some mood you’re in.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Sorry. I didn’t mean to snap at you. I know you’re my boss and I’m supposed to make an effort to be charming and all, but I am just so mad right now, I could scream.

Nick: If you expect me to agree that you’re some kind of authority on Victoria, that is not gonna happen, alright? I’m just talking to everyone who’s in her life, trying to get a read on some of the actions she’s made. Honestly, I would like to stay out of her personal business if it can be helped, but I need to know if there’s an issue here or not.

Billy: Well, it actually sounds like you’re trying to see if I’m gonna use my resources at ChancComm to go after Ashland Locke. You know, you want me to do the digging because if it blows up in my face, then I’m the one that takes the brunt of it.

Nick: This idea just occurred to you, digging into Ashland’s past to try and come up with some dirt to get him out of Victoria’s life? Sounds to me like it’s something you’ve been gearing up to do, and you’re gonna do it whether you get any encouragement from me or not.

Billy: Thank you.

[ Sighs ] Don’t worry, nick. We don’t have to get into victoria’s impending nuptials like we did the other day. I’ll keep my opinions to myself.

Nick: No, billy. Actually, you made some very good points. I haven’t stopped thinking about them.

Billy: Pardon me?

Nick: If it isn’t just jealousy on your part about victoria marrying a guy like ashland locke and you truly are concerned, I want to know why. What is it you’re worried about?

Billy: Besides the obvious, that ashland locke is probably gonna die and victoria’s gonna get her heart broken, what do any of us really know about that man?

Ashland: Well, jack just texted. He and harrison arrived safely in milan.

Victoria: That’s wonderful.

Ashland: “Harrison is having a blast. Kyle and summer now are house-hunting in basiglio so he’ll have a nice, big yard to play in.”

Victoria: Oh, my goodness. That is such a fabulous area. I mean, the newman apartment is also lovely, but it’s not really ideal for a family of three.

Ashland: Yeah. Well, at least we are trying to make the transition as easy as possible for harrison.

Victoria: I think that spending time with him before and during the wedding week is gonna make it even more special.

Ashland: You are so sweet, trying to make that happen for me.

Victoria: He’s a wonderful boy. I know you’re gonna miss him.

Ashland: I already do. How are your plans progressing?

Victoria: Great. Uh, mom and I are gonna grab some coffee before heading to the office and continue to discuss all of the plans.

Ashland: It’s great to see you enjoying the process. I want this to be the most perfect day that you could ever imagine.

Victoria: Aww. How are you feeling?

Ashland: Pretty decent, actually. Is there a reason why you’re asking?

Victoria: Well, I — I heard you get up last night, so I went to check on you, and you were working. I just didn’t want to interrupt.

Ashland: Well, when I went to bed, things were kind of rough. I couldn’t sleep, so I got some stuff accomplished, and then i had a good night’s sleep and i woke up feeling a lot stronger this morning.

Victoria: Good. Yeah. There’s nothing like the healing power of burning the midnight oil.

Ashland: I think the healing comes from being focused on something outside of myself, you know, working on a plan, especially one of this magnitude that has so much meaning for us both.

Victoria: Are you talking about the —

Ashland: The merger, of course, yeah. I am pleased to announce that everything is all set for the official launch of our conglomerate in one month.

Victoria: That soon?

Ashland: Newman/locke is becoming a reality. And I have something to show you that I think you’re going to like.

Sally: [ Scoffs ]

Adam: Good morning, sally.

Sally: Yeah? What’s good about it?

Adam: Wow, that’s some mood you’re in.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Sorry. I didn’t mean to snap at you. I know you’re my boss and I’m supposed to make an effort to be charming and all, but I am just so mad right now, I could scream.

Adam: Mm. Do you want to tell me about it?

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Adam: Or, uh, should I mind my own business and keep walking?

Sally: Phyllis — the most vindictive woman on the face of the earth — just sent me a massive bill for extras at her second-rate hotel.

Adam: What, like, uh, mini-bar charges and movie rentals?

Sally: Like towels.

Adam: Seriously?

Sally: Yeah. She goes on and on about what a fine establishment it is and then adds up all the times that I asked housekeeping for — you know what? Just forget it. The whole thing is petty. Really. She threw me out without a warning, and then she just couldn’t resist sticking it to me one last time. It’s just mean, really, and nasty and — and… oh, you think this whole thing’s funny? Mm-hmm. Okay. Yeah. Well, no one’s gonna be laughing when I find a way to pay her back for ruining my life.

Adam: And how did phyllis do that? No, really, I’m curious because, from where I’m standing, you’re much better off exactly where you are.

Victor: Ashland locke, l-o-c-k-E.

The businessman from back east.

Victor: That’s right. I want you to go all the way back through the past and find out anything you can about him, alright? And this is a priority, second only to finding out what happened to mariah copeland.

You want to know all the stuff that doesn’t show up in press releases.

Victor: You bet. You find out anything you can.

What should I focus on? What is it you’re hoping to find?

Nikki: My question exactly.

Adam: You told me that you thought you finally found your niche at newman media, you know, a place where your talents are appreciated, free from this town’s rampant hypocrisy. None of that would have happened without phyllis. So maybe you ought to be thanking her.

Sally: Yeah. Maybe. When hell freezes over.

Adam: Okay, look. I get why you are angry, and i understand your impulse to exact some revenge. I mean, I have spent years trying to get even with damn near everyone, which has got me a criminal record, a ton of bad press, and a slew of mortal enemies. So, learn from my experience. Whatever you do to phyllis will be a waste of time and energy. Besides, payback is never as satisfying as you’ll envision it’ll be.

Sally: So, your advice is to become a new and improved version of myself like you?

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Look, you didn’t leave town when everybody turned on you, and that says a lot about who you are, sally, how strong and determined you are.

Sally: Or stupid.

Adam: If there is one thing that you are not, it’s stupid. So take all this resentment and turn it into something positive, like putting newman media on the fashion world’s radar and making a name for yourself. Instead of giving the haters ammo, I mean, how much more satisfying will it be to force them to watch your meteoric rise?

Sally: How’s that working out for you?

Adam: A lot better than doing things the old way. Trust me.

Sally: Everybody tells me that might be a mistake.

Adam: Mm-hmm. It’s another advantage of taking the high road. People don’t know what to expect. Keeps them guessing.

Nikki: I know you have questions about ashland.

Victor: Yeah, but don’t you? By the way, it was nicholas who brought up questions about him in the first place.

Nikki: Victor, you’ve finally made peace with victoria, which was no easy feat. Now, if you insist on delving into her fiancé’s past, how do you think that’s gonna make her feel when she finds out? I don’t understand why you want to look for something nefarious now.

Victor: Sweetheart, I like the guy. I don’t want to do anything to upset their relationship. However, I don’t want there to be any surprises.

Nikki: I don’t know. I don’t know what to say to you.

Victor: Sweetheart, ashland locke built his empire the way I did, okay? He was ruthless. He wears that like a badge of honor. He squashed a lot of people.

Nikki: And now he has come face to face with his own mortality. Don’t you think that affects somebody like that? I mean, look at the difficult choices me made for his son.

Victor: I’m not questioning about what kind of a father he is.

Nikki: I think that he loves victoria very much, just like she loves him. But if you insist on going through with this investigation, she’s going to think that you don’t trust her judgment.

Victor: Sweetheart, I’m a father who loves his daughter. I want her to be happy.

Nikki: Well, darling, what you’re doing now will make her extremely unhappy. Don’t you see that? Every time you second-guess your child, it damages your relationship with them a little bit more.

Victor: Listen, all I can tell you is that my investigation hopefully turns up nothing that is shady.

Nikki: Well, I don’t see how it could. He has been in the public eye for many years, facing a lot of media scrutiny.

Victor: Doesn’t mean a damn thing. There may be something in his past that we don’t like, and i don’t want victoria to go into this marriage without knowing everything about that man.

Victoria: A surprise? For me?

Ashland: I had a burst of inspiration recently, and i can’t wait to see your reaction.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Tell me.

Ashland: Well, better yet, I’m gonna show you. Now, my view — it’s still in the rough stages. It’s not a full rendering. But I believe that you will get the gist. A bold, new corporation needs new headquarters. Behold, newman/locke corporate campus. We have newman tower, alongside its brand-new twin, locke tower. Everything state-of-the-art. We should probably have the new one completed in about three years, and I might even be able to see it.

Victoria: I can’t believe you did all this. I — I never imagined two buildings.

Ashland: Well, it’s a symbol of what we’re creating. It’s a sign to the world — twice the company, twice as formidable.

Victoria: It’s, um — it’s — it’s quite a premise. I’m very impressed. What you came up with is — it’s incredible.

Victor: I love the idea of identical towers dominating the skyline for a century to come.

Victoria: I think it’s great. Let’s talk about it later. I — I have to meet my mom right now. Um, I’ll see you. Rinsing the dishes before they go in the dishwasher?

Phyllis: Ashland. You’re looking good.

Ashland: Thanks.

Phyllis: Going to the gym?

Ashland: I’d like to purchase a package that includes the spa. I’ll be coming regularly as part of my treatment regimen. I figure I should take a, uh, month-to-month at this point, though.

Phyllis: Okay. Sure. I’ll accommodate you. It’s always great to have a guest return.

Ashland: Well, I doubt that sentiment extends to my ex-wife. I never did properly thank you for exposing her illegal activities.

Phyllis: You’re welcome. Embezzling from her own company — wow, that’s lovely.

Ashland: Mm. Even though you were acting on your daughter’s behalf, i benefited. It made certain decisions a whole lot simpler for me.

Phyllis: I find it odd that tara was able to fool you. I mean, you’re a man who’s made a career out of being 10 steps ahead of others.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ] Well… despite what you may believe, I did love her once. At least, it was a kind of love. And love makes you see things in a different way.

Nikki: So, how is ashland’s treatment going?

Victoria: Well, as you know, the first day was rocky, but ever since then, he seems to be handling things just fine.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] I’m happy to hear that. I know all about cherishing the good days. You want to make the most of them.

Victoria: I talked to nick about ashland and my engagement.

Nikki: And?

Victoria: He’s reserving judgment. He says he wants to get to know ashland better before he decides what to think of him.

Nikki: Well, that’s not unreasonable.

Victoria: So much for family unity.

Nikki: Darling, you have to look at this from our point of view. I mean, given ashland’s prognosis, when we heard about your decision to get married, it was a bit of a shock. Of course we’re concerned about you marrying a man who could leave you all too soon.

Victoria: But, mother, that’s why we’re taking this step. We don’t know how much time we have. Why can’t nick just be happy for me? He sees how happy I am. He knows how happy ashland makes me. He even commented on it. Can’t that be enough? I mean, why can’t he support and respect the decision that i have made, the same way that dad has? Anyway, we’re not here to parse everyone’s opinion about my fiancé. We have a wedding to plan.

Nikki: Yes, indeed we do.

Victoria: And since it’s a destination wedding — it’s gonna be a big splash with all a-listers invited — I am going to need a dress that’s equally impressive. I was thinking about talking to summer to see if she could get angelina marchetti to consider designing it for me.

Nikki: Oh, what a fabulous idea. I know that summer will be thrilled to make that happen.

Victoria: Well, I’ve been giving it a lot of thought, and I think I want something form-fitting, you know, like a sheath or a trumpet look, classic in the front with a plunging back.

Nick: You know, I said the same thing to my sister and to my parents. Other than this guy’s ruthless business reputation and the tabloid gossip about his messy divorce, what do we know about him?

Billy: That’d be a big, fat nothing.

Nick: Exactly. So, before his divorce is finalized, he gets with my sister and then, uh, finds out he’s got terminal cancer and now they’re engaged to be married.

Billy: The dude moves fast.

Nick: Something is not right with this picture. I couldn’t even pretend to be happy when victoria told me the news.

Billy: Oh, I am with you, brother.

Nick: Throw on top of that her terrible track record with men, present company included…

Billy: No offense taken.

Nick: No, no. Billy, take offense, please. It’s absolutely my intent.

Billy: Oh, no, this isn’t about me. Carry on.

Nick: The question that is eating me alive is, what is the rush? Ashland knows he’s probably not long for this earth. Victoria doesn’t need anything from him, so it’s not like he’s doing it for her. Why do they have to make it official to spend time together? They already live together. Why is that not enough?

Billy: You know, nick, the way you’re asking me that question, it’s almost like you’re conceding the fact that i know victoria better than anyone else, including her own brother. Trusted by pet owners for over 20 years

Ashland: We got off on the wrong foot when I first came to town, and I’d like to rectify that.

Phyllis: Why is that? Because I’m involved with victoria’s brother and you’re about to marry her?

Ashland: Well, not only that. Your daughter, summer, is helping raise my little boy.

Phyllis: Wow we’re one big happy family, aren’t we?

Ashland: [ Chuckling ] Well, let’s not go too far. Although I am very impressed the way summer has embraced her new role as harrison’s stepmother. Jack tells me that she’s wonderful with him, and for that I am grateful. And I would like to be on better terms with her mom.

Phyllis: Well, being a fan of my daughter will get you a long way.

Ashland: Well, while we’re at it, maybe you can help me win over your boyfriend. I spoke with him after victoria and I became engaged.

Phyllis: Oh, wow. How’d that go over?

Ashland: Well, nick was polite, and he didn’t pull any punches. He even compared me to billy abbott.

Phyllis: Really? Okay. I think he was just trying to make a point.

Ashland: No doubt.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm.

Ashland: What really rankles me is the way the men in victoria’s life treat her. I mean, they act as if she’s some fragile flower that doesn’t know her own mind. And she happens to be one of the smartest, strongest, most capable women that I have ever met.

Phyllis: Okay. Did you tell nick that?

Ashland: I think I made it clear to nick that victoria doesn’t need to justify her actions to anyone.

[ Clears throat ] He heard me out, but I don’t know if I scored any points with him.

Phyllis: Okay, listen, um, nick is really protective of his family, especially his sister. And, I mean, you have to see that the circumstances surrounding this marriage are… odd.

Ashland: What are your thoughts? As long as the rest of the world is weighing in.

Phyllis: I think true love is hard to find.

Ashland: Mm.

Phyllis: And I think if you find it, you better hold on tight.

Ashland: Agreed. Perhaps you can help nick see that’s all this is about — two people who have found the rarest of commodities — true love.

Nikki: Okay, that takes care of the menu.

Victoria: Excellent.

Nikki: Now, uh, what about the music for before and during the ceremony? Are you gonna want a vocalist or string quartet? Oh! A harpist is always very elegant.

Victoria: Hmm. Let me give that some thought. Maybe a harpist during cocktails and dinner, and then the quartet can start playing during coffee and dessert.

Nikki: Ah! Definite possibility.

Victoria: You know, we really have gotten a lot accomplished, and I think we’ve made some outstanding choices.

Nikki: You know what? I keep forgetting to ask you. Are you going to need office arrangements to be made while you’re on your honeymoon?

Victoria: What do you mean?

Nikki: Well, I didn’t know if ashland would be playing an active role in running things at what will soon be newman/locke. I mean, will he need an office, a reception area? Are you going to need special equipment to be ordered? Because I can take care of all that for you while you’re away. Do you know where you’re going yet?

Victoria: Ashland and i haven’t discussed it.

Nikki: Well, if he does decide to take an active role, he’s going to need a place to work. Somewhere near you on the executive floor, I assume?

Nikki: Oh. I’m sorry. Have I upset you? Did I say the wrong thing just now?

Victor: [ Sighs ] I understand that some locke communications employees are starting to relocate from new york to genoa city… and that you arranged some meetings with them, trying to hire them away from locke.

Adam: Nothing gets by you.

Victor: I want you to know that, from now on, newman/locke employees are out of bounds.

Adam: I reached out to a select few individuals for potential opportunities at newman media, okay? They could have said no. There’s no arm-twisting going on. They didn’t have to come in here for an interview.

Victor: Let me make another thing perfectly clear again. I do not want you to do anything to undermine your sister, victoria, nor to in any way endanger the merger between newman enterprises and locke communications.

Adam: You have absolutely made that clear… just as you’ve made it clear that I am in charge of this company and I am the person that ultimately make the decisions. Dull skin? Swipe it away.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Chloe: Hey, you. I was wondering when you’d get to the office.

Sally: Oh, it’s such a gorgeous day, I thought I’d work outside for a bit. You got my text, didn’t you?

Chloe: Yeah. It’s — it’s fine. I — I just thought I’d come by.

Sally: Checking up on me? Oh.

Chloe: It’s — it’s not like that.

Sally: Well, what’s it like?

Chloe: I, um — I ran into adam. He said he saw you earlier and that you were on your way to the office, and then I got your text message that you were coming here, so… you know, I’m just checking in on my latest hire. Wanted to make sure everything was okay.

Sally: Yeah. I mean, everything’s better than okay, partly because of some of the things that adam said to me.

Chloe: Sally —

Sally: Look, will you stop? Please. Really, all he did was stop me from making a huge mistake.

Chloe: Okay, you lost me.

Sally: Phyllis managed to tick me off yet again, and adam peeled me off the ceiling. Instead of spending my time looking for creative ways to get back at her, he suggested that i focus on my own success. And, you know, coming from someone who’s been there, it really did resonate.

Chloe: I’ve been there before. I’ve had those urges, the wanting to hurt someone a thousand times more than they’ve hurt you. Those thoughts can really burrow into your brain.

Sally: I know that adam is not your favorite person, but i really am in a much better place after talking to him. I mean, I went from, “I am going to bury that viper,” to, “phyllis who?”

Chloe: Good. And she is one of those people who just likes to go to war just for kicks. She will just not let it go. So it’s probably better for you if you just stay off her radar. It’s gonna make your life a lot easier. Trust me.

Sally: There’s a lot of that going around lately, people asking me to trust them.

Sally: Well, in my case, it’s actually true.

[ Chuckles ]

Sally: [ Sighs ] Chloe, I am super excited about this job, and I plan to make the most out of this opportunity that you’ve given me. I find that sometimes I get my best ideas when I’m outside, soaking up the sun. So here I am. I promise to be equally as productive inside the office as out.

Chloe: Okay. It’s cool. So, let me see what you’re working on.

Sally: Well [Clears throat] I am drawing up some story ideas for my first six weeks at newman media, up-and-coming designers, international trends that you’ll be seeing on the runway in the next few months, and I definitely want to do a piece on how gender barriers are coming down, with all these, you know, new designers launching unisex lines.

Chloe: I love it. What else are you working on?

Sally: Oh, uh, I mean, that’s just a sampling. I have tons of ideas —

Chloe: No, I don’t mean that. I mean, um, what are you working on really? What else are you working on? Because I’m getting the sense that there’s something going on with you.

Sally: You think I’m hiding something?

Chloe: I don’t know. Are you?

Sally: No. I really don’t know how you’d get that.

Chloe: I’m really good at reading people. And I’m picking up signals, like that page you just swiped, like you thought I wouldn’t notice.

Sally: [ Stammers ] It’s just story research. That’s it. I swear.

Chloe: Sally, I asked you to be honest with me. So, if there’s something going on with you, does this have something to do with phyllis?

Sally: No. I —

[ Sighs ] I wasn’t gonna share this with you until I was further along with this idea that I’m working on.

Chloe: Which is?

Sally: I am gonna convince victoria to let me design her wedding dress.

Victoria: It’s complicated, trying to decide how far ahead to plan with so many unknowns.

Nikki: I understand.

Victoria: I mean, ashland and I were hoping for the best, but we can’t ignore the reality of his situation. Maybe the treatment’s gonna work, maybe not. But focusing too much on his work life — it just seems wrong. I just don’t want to feel like he’s pushing himself.

Nikki: Or it might help prepare him for the best outcome. Has he broached the subject with you?

Victoria: Yes, mom, we talk about work all the time, the merger, which is on track to finalize in a month.

Nikki: Oh. I wasn’t aware that that timeline was official.

Victoria: Yes. As of this morning.

Nikki: Is there anything else I need to know about?

Victoria: Mom, I have spent countless hours going over all of this to make sure that it goes smoothly, which is why I so look forward to my time with you — because I want the same thing for this wedding. I want it to be a celebration about ashland and me as a couple, not as business partners, not as two entities involved in a merger. I want this to be about just us and the time that we have. And as far as work goes, I think we should just play that by ear.

A lot of people think dealing with copd

Adam: You are an advisor. That’s the role that you chose, to work with me, your ceo. And I took your warning about locke communications group in that spirit — that it was advice that I could take or not. And I have no doubt that billy and lily see the same opportunity and they’ll act accordingly.

Victor: As is their prerogative.

Adam: And locke’s employees are stuck in the middle of a transition. They don’t have any idea how it’s going to affect them. They’re looking for solid ground, so that is what I’m prepared to offer them. And I’m not gonna miss out on a potential gold mine of talent because you don’t want to hurt victoria’s feelings. It’s business, dad, as you have said a thousand times in similar circumstances. I’m doing what I need to do, same as victoria, who just took on a behemoth. I mean, what is it? Do you not think she’s up to the task?

Victor: You know I do.

Adam: Well, this is part of it — dealing with aggressive competition for scarce resources. It is the right move to make. You know it, I know it, and victoria will know it, too. So, I’m just asking you to keep your personal feelings out of it.

Victor: You’re my son, alright. But I advise you to keep your personal feelings out of it, as well.

Nick: Ashland stopped by here?

Phyllis: Mm-hmm.

Nick: What’d he want?

Phyllis: A gym membership. I think he really just wanted to talk to me since we’re all gonna be one big happy family.

Nick: Did he actually say that?

Victoria: Uh, he thanked me for exposing tara.

Nick: He should be grateful. You made it possible for him to just move on to his next marriage.

Phyllis: He also told me that you expressed your concerns.

Nick: I was simply honest with him.

Phyllis: [ Laughs ] He said you compared him to billy. Seriously?

Nick: Billy was just walking in as we finished talking. It seemed plausible at the time.

Phyllis: Well, his expectations are warranted. I mean, he just, you know, wants you to support the relationship. That’s all. And he was asking if I would bring you around, you know, and see that true love is a hard commodity to find. That’s what he said.

Nick: Isn’t it fair for me to want to know a little bit about the guy who’s planning to marry my sister? And to be concerned about the speed at which it’s happening? I don’t see this ending well for victoria at all.

Phyllis: Oh, okay. It’s probably not gonna end well for ashland.

Nick: Look, something about it feels off. It feels rushed, alright? And I can’t wrap my head around it in several ways.

Phyllis: Are you gonna try to talk victoria out of this?

Nick: Give me one good reason why I shouldn’T.

Phyllis: Well, I’ll give you three. It’s none of your business, number one. Number two, she’s in love. And, truly, love is hard to find. And, three, she’s gonna do what she wants anyway.

Billy: [ Grunts ]

[ Keys clacks ]

Lily: What are you doing?

Billy: Hey. Uh, I’m just doing a little bit of research on that potential project that I mentioned about the romantic breakups among the denizens of genoa city.

Lily: Right. Okay. Uh, what kind of research exactly?

Billy: Just adding up all the marriages and divorces among some of our elites, you know, like victor and jack, nick, phyllis, of course.

Lily: Victoria. Don’t forget her.

Billy: I’m not gonna forget her. She would be considered a denizen, yes.

Lily: Mm. Yeah, I’m getting kind of a funny feeling.

Billy: Funny like “ha ha” feeling?

Lily: No, it’s that feeling i get when I know that you’re hiding something from me.

Billy: [ Sighs ] I always had a connection to my grandfather…

Sally: I overheard victoria and her mom talking. I know precisely what she is looking for in a dress.

Chloe: So you started sketching.

Sally: What can I say? Coming up with a showstopper is in my blood. I am gonna present victoria with some ideas that will blow her away. It’ll be like I read her mind. She’s not gonna be able to say no. This is gonna be such an amazing coup, not only for me, but also for newman media. I mean, talk about putting our new fashion platform on the map. That wedding is gonna be the social event of the decade. The buzz is gonna be enormous.

Chloe: Okay, look, I really admire your talent and your drive, but let’s be realistic. There is no way that summer newman’s aunt is going to let anywhere near her wedding plans.

Sally: Do you know how many people have told me that i couldn’t do something, who’ve written me off and told me that my dreams are utterly ridiculous? It just makes me more determined to get what I want.

Nick: Are you telling me not to meddle into someone else’s business to possibly prevent someone that I love very much from doing something that could wind up hurting her?

Phyllis: You’re calling me a hypocrite right now.

Nick: No. I would not do that. Um, sometimes your selective logic never ceases to amaze me.

Phyllis: Oh! Oh. Um, do what you want. It doesn’t matter to me. Victoria’s your sister. I’m not gonna criticize you, okay? I’m just saying that she is hell-bent on marrying this guy. And whoever stands in her way, watch out.

Nick: So you’re saying there could be some blowback?

Phyllis: Yeah, I guarantee there will be.

Nick: I mean, alright. When you put it that way, maybe I will just stay on the sideline and let billy be the one to torpedo things because, let me tell you, he is on a mission not to allow victoria to go through with this wedding.

Billy: Okay. Your instincts are right. Again.

Lily: Mm. What are you hiding this time?

Billy: I’m not only looking into longtime genoa city residents. I’m also looking into ashland locke’s past… and how it ties in to the bigger story, as in another potentially dangerous and doomed relationship in the making.

Lily: Right, but usually the reporter that’s writing the story does that kind of research. So, what are you really doing? Oh, wait. I know. Let me guess. You’re turning over rocks with ashland locke’s name on them, trying to find some sort of heinous, unforgivable sin that he’s done that victoria cannot forgive so that you can stop this wedding from ever happening.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Ashland? Are you home?

Victor and Nikki in "Young and The Restless" 8/23/21

At the main house, Victor told his security guy to gather information on Ashland. He said this was a priority, second only to finding out what happened to Mariah. Nikki walked in and wanted an explanation. After the man left, Nikki warned Victor that digging into Ashland’s past could cause more tension with Victoria. She didn’t understand why he was looking for something nefarious now. He said he liked Ashland and he wasn’t trying to break up the relationship. He just didn’t want there to be any surprises. Victor said that, like him, Ashland was ruthless in business. Nikki thought that facing your mortality affected people. Nikki said Ashland and Victoria loved each other, and if Victor insisted on going through with this investigation, Victoria would feel like he didn’t trust her judgment. He said he was a loving father who didn’t want his daughter to be unhappy, but Nikki said this would make Victoria unhappy. Victor just hoped his investigation didn’t turn up anything shady. Nikki didn’t think it would, since Ashland had been in the public eye for many years. Victor didn’t want Victoria to go into the marriage until she knew everything about Ashland.

Nick bumped into Billy at Crimson Lights. Billy promised to keep his opinions about Victoria’s impending nuptials to himself, but Nick admitted that he thought Billy made some good points. Nick said that if this wasn’t just jealousy on Billy’s part, he wanted to hear Billy’s concerns. Billy said, besides the obvious, that Ashland would probably die, leaving Victoria heartbroken, they didn’t really know anything about Ashland. Nick mentioned that he’d said the same thing to his sister and his parents. Nick commented on the trajectory of the relationship – Ashland got involved with Victoria before his divorce finalized, then he found out he had terminal cancer, then they got engaged. He said something wasn’t right. He added that Victoria had a terrible track record with men, present company included. Billy didn’t take offense. “No, no. take offense, Billy,” Nick replied.

Nick tried to figure out what the rush was – why did Victoria and Ashland have to make it official to spend time together? Billy said that when Nick asked those questions, it was like he was conceding that Billy knew Victoria better than anyone else did, even her own brother. Nick refused to agree that Billy was a Victoria-expert. Nick said he was talking to everyone in Victoria’s life to get a read on some of her actions. He wanted to stay out of her personal business if possible. Billy sensed that Nick wanted to know if he was going to use the resources at ChancComm to go after Ashland. “You want me to do the digging because if it blows up in my face then I’m the one that takes the brunt of it,” Billy said. Nick theorized that Billy was already planning to do this whether Nick encouraged it or not. Nick left.

Ashland and Victoria in "Young and The Restless" 8/23/21

At their place, Ashland told Victoria that Jack and Harrison arrived safely in Milan. Kyle and Summer were house-hunting in Basiglio for a place with a big yard for Harrison to play in. Victoria said the Newman apartment was lovely, but it wasn’t ideal for a family of three. She mentioned that Harrison would see Ashland during the wedding week. Ashland thought Victoria was sweet to try and arrange that for him. He already missed Harrison. They shifted gears and talked about wedding plans. He wanted the wedding to be perfect fro her. She mentioned she heard him get up last night and start working. He said things were rough when he went to bed, and he couldn’t sleep. He woke up feeling stronger, though. He thought that the healing came from being focused on something outside himself – something with so much meaning for both of them. He announced that everything was ready for the official launch of their conglomerate next month. She was surprised it would be done that soon.

Ashland had a surprise for Victoria. It was a sketch of two identical towers – one was Newman Tower, and the new one next to it would be Locke Tower. He estimated it’d take about three years to build it, and he thought he might even get to see it. She never imagined two buildings. He said it was a symbol that they were twice the company. She said that was quite the premise. He loved the idea of identical towers dominating the skyline for a century to come. She said she thought it was great, though she didn’t sound enthusiastic about it. She added that they’d talk about it later, because she had to meet her mom. She left, and he looked caught off guard by her reaction.

Ashland went to The Grand Phoenix. He told Phyllis he wanted to purchase a gym and spa package, as he’d be coming regularly as part of his treatment regimen. He figured he should do month-to-month at this time. She was willing to accommodate that. He shifted gears and thanked her for exposing Tara’s crimes. Finding out made certain decisions easier for him. Phyllis found it odd that Tara was able to fool Ashland. He said he’d loved Tara once, at least, it was a kind of love, and love made you see things differently.

Phyllis and Ashland in "Young and The Restless" 8/23/21

Ashland said he and Phyllis got off on the wrong foot when he first came to town. He wanted to rectify that since her daughter was raising his little boy. She quipped that they were one big happy family, but he didn’t think they should go too far. He was impressed with the way Summer embraced her role as Harrison’s stepmother. Jack had reported that Summer was wonderful with him. Phyllis said that being a fan of her daughter would get Ashland a long way with her. He asked if she could help him win over her boyfriend. He told her how Nick compared him to Billy Abbott. It rankled him how the men in Victoria’s life treated her like a fragile flower, even though she was one of the strongest smartest, most capable women Ashland ever met. He’d told Nick that Victoria didn’t need to justify her actions to anyone. Phyllis said Nick was protective of his family. She thought Ashland had to concede that the circumstances of this marriage were odd. He asked what he thoughts were, since everyone else was weighing in. she thought true love was hard to find and it should be held onto. He hoped she could help Nick see this was only about two people who’d found the rarest of commodities – true love.

After Ashland left, Nick showed up. Phyllis told him about her talk with Ashland. Nick didn’t see the engagement ending well for Victoria. Phyllis said that it probably wouldn’t end well for Ashland. Nick had a feeling that something wasn’t right. Phyllis asked if he was going to try to talk Victoria out of it. He asked for one good reason why he shouldn’t. She had three – it was none of his business, Victoria was in love, which was hard to find, and Victoria was going to do what she wanted. He asked if she was saying he shouldn’t meddle to prevent someone he cared about from getting hurt. She said he was calling her a hypocrite, but he said he wouldn’t do that. “Sometimes your selective logic never ceases to amaze me,” he said. She told him to do what he wanted, because it didn’t matter to her. She just guaranteed there would be blowback from Victoria, though. He considered staying on the sidelines and letting Billy be the one to torpedo things.

Billy went to work and got on Lily’s laptop. She walked in and asked what he was doing. He claimed he was doing research on the project about romantic breakups in Genoa City. He was making a list of all the marriages and divorces, like Phyllis and Jack. Lily said not to forget Victoria, and Billy said he didn’t. Lily had a feeling Billy was hiding something from her. He admitted she was right. He not only was looking into long term residents, he was also looking into Ashland’s past, because that was another potentially dangerous and doomed relationship in the making. Lily noted that this sort of research was the job of the reporter who’d write the story. “So what are you really doing?,” she asked. She thought he was trying to find something that would make Victoria call off the wedding.

Adam and Sally in "Young and The Restless" 8/23/21

Sally ran into Adam at Society. She was having a bad day, and he offered to listen. Phyllis just sent her a massive bill for extras, like all the times Sally asked housekeeping for extra towels. He smiled at her ranting, but she said no one would be laughing when she paid Phyllis off for ruining her life. Adam thought Sally seemed to be better off. He reminded her that she’d said she found her niche at Newman Media – a place where her talents were appreciated, free from the town’s rampant hypocrisy. He said that maybe she should thank Phyllis, but Sally scoffed. He admitted that his attempts to get even had backfired, and he told her to learn from his experience. He added that payback was never as satisfying as you envisioned. She asked if he was suggesting she become a new and improved version of herself, like he did. He thought the fact that she didn’t leave town said a lot about how strong and determined she was. She suggested it meant she was stupid, but he vehemently disagreed. He encouraged her to channel her resentment into something positive and force her haters to watch her meteoric rise. She asked how that was working out for him. He said it was a lot better than doing things the old way. “Trust me,” he said. She replied that everyone told her that would be a mistake.

At Newman Media, Victor revealed that he knew Adam was trying to poach Locke employees. He said from now on Newman/Locke employees were out of bonds. Adam said he reached out to a select few individuals, and nobody made them come meet with him. Victor made it clear that Adam was not to undermine his sister or endanger the merger. Adam noted that he was in charge of this company, and he made the decisions. “You are an advisor. That’s the role you chose to work with me, your CEO,” Adam said. Adam stated that he’d taken Victor’s warning about Locke Communications group as advice that he could take, or not take. He had no doubt that Lily and Billy would see the same opportunity, and Victor said that was their prerogative. Adam said Locke’s employees were stuck in the middle of a transition, and he was offering solid ground. He said he wasn’t going to miss out on a potential goldmine of talent because Victor didn’t want hurt Victoria’s feelings. “It’s just business, Dad. As you have said a thousand times under similar circumstances,” he stated. Adam said he was doing what he needed to do, just like Victoria. He asked if Victor didn’t think Victoria was up to the task. “You know I do,” Victor said. Adam felt that this was part of business – competing for scarce resources. Adam asked Victor to keep his personal feelings out of it. “You’re my son alright. But I advise you to keep your personal feelings out of it as well,” Victor replied.

While at Society with Nikki, Victoria reported that Ashland’s treatment was going well. Nikki was happy to hear that. She knew all about making the most of the good days. Victoria mentioned that Nick had reserved judgment on her engagement until he got to know Ashland. She’d been hoping for family unity on the subject. “You have to look at this from our point of view,” Nikki said. She said the family was concerned about Victoria marrying someone who could leave her all too soon. Victoria said they were taking this step because they didn’t know how much time they’d have together. She asked why Nick couldn’t just support and respect her decision, the same way Victor did. Nikki looked away. Victoria shifted gears and said they had a wedding to plan.

Sally overheard Victoria talking about the A-list packed wedding she was planning. She was going to ask Summer if she could get Angelina Marchetti to design her wedding dress. Victoria described the gown of her dreams, and Sally secretly typed all the information into her phone. Nikki and Victoria discussed music for the wedding. Victoria wanted a harpist and a string quartet.

Nikki asked what, if any, arrangements they’d need to make for what was soon to be Newman/Locke. Would Ashland need an office and reception area, any special equipment etc. The topic made Victoria’s cheerful mood evaporate. Nikki said she could take care of all that while the couple was on their honeymoon. Victoria said she and Ashland never discussed it. Nikki noticed the shift in Victoria and asked if she was upset. Victoria said it was complicated planning for an uncertain future. She and Ashland were planning for the best but they couldn’t ignore the reality. Victoria thought it was wrong to focus a lot on Ashland’s work life, because she was worried he’d push himself. She didn’t want him to push himself. Nikki said that it might prepare Ashland for the best outcome. Victoria mentioned that the merger would be official in a month. Victoria spent countless hours making sure it would go smoothly. She wanted the same thing for the wedding. She wanted it to be a celebration of her and Ashland as a couple, not as business partners. She wanted to take the work situation by ear.

Sally was sketching something on her tablet in the park when Chloe showed up. Chloe asked about Sally coming into the office. Sally replied that she’d sent Chloe a text saying she was going to work in the park. Chloe ran into Adam at work, and he’d mentioned that he saw Sally earlier, so Chloe was here to check on Sally. Sally said Adam stopped her from making a huge mistake. She brought Chloe up to speed on everything. She said Adam’s advice resonated because he’d been in her position. Chloe knew the feeling of wanting to hurt someone 1,000 times worse than they hurt you. Sally knew Adam wasn’t Chloe’s favorite, but she really felt better after talking to him. She was ready to ignore Phyllis. Chloe said Phyllis liked going to war, so it was probably best for Sally to stay off her radar. Chloe said to trust her, and Sally said a lot of people were asking her to do that lately.

Sally said she got her best ideas outside sometimes, and shes promised to be just as productive as she would be in the office. Chloe asked what Sally was working on. Sally rattled off a list of things, but Chloe sensed there was something else Sally was working on that she was hiding. Sally kept pretending that there wasn’t anything else. Chloe noted that she’d asked Sally to be honest with her. Sally cracked and said she wasn’t going to share this idea until she was further along. She said she was going to convince Victoria to let her design her wedding dress.

Sally in "Young and The Restless" 8/23/21

Sally said she heard Victoria say precisely what she was looking for in a dress. She predicted Victoria would be blown away when she saw Sally’s sketches. She thought Victoria would feel like Sally read her mind. Sally said that the wedding would be the social event of the decade and it’d put their fashion platform on the map. Chloe admired Sally’s talent and drive, but there was no way Summer’s aunt was going to let Sally anywhere near this. Sally said so many people had written her off, and it only made her more determined to get what she wanted.

Victoria went home and called for Ashland. He wasn’t there. She picked up the sketch of the two towers and stared at it.

Sally: Oh, I’m more than optimistic. I am determined to make myself completely indispensable to Newman Media. But for now, I will settle for buying my new boss a drink.

Adam: You know, I hate to admit this, but I haven’t had a chance to thoroughly review our HR policies. Something tells me that thing might be frowned upon.

Sally: Mm. Does it really matter, though? ‘Cause you’re in charge. You can always change the policy. Or you could just suspend it for the evening.

Adam: You know, something tells me that kind of thinking might have got you in trouble at Fenmore’s.

Sally: Hmm, right, ’cause you’re such a stickler for the rules. Nope, never mind. You’re right. Besides, you’re rich, and I have rent and car payments to worry about, so you can buy your own drink.

Adam: Somehow I don’t think you’re gonna have to worry about making rent. And I do agree that you do have a bright future at Newman Media. And to show you how confident I am about that, I’m gonna let you buy me that drink.

Sally: Ooh, it’s interesting. I detect traces of a robust smoke, alongside a tang of… coffee, vanilla, and maybe a glimmer of fruit. But there’s something that I cannot quite put my finger on.

Adam: That extra nuance is from being aged for 16 years in cask wood. For that intense sweetness.

Sally: Oh. Impressive.

Adam: You have a pretty impressive palate yourself.

Sally: Well, I have to admit, this single malt is normally a bit out of my price range, but since you were ordering it, I figured I should try it, too.

Adam: I think that Abby put it on the menu at my father’s request.

Sally: Well, I guess being a Newman has its perks

Ashland: I’m not Billy Abbott. And I have learned over time how problematic it is to compare the present to the past. Victoria doesn’t need to justify her actions or feelings to anyone. And I will say to you what I have said to her — I love her with everything that I have and I think she feels the same way.

Nick: I believe you. Victoria said the same thing.

Ashland: Well, then I politely suggest to you and everyone else that wants to worry about Victoria that you stop second-guessing her and passing judgment on her life and on her heart. The past is in the past. Victoria and I are living in the moment and looking towards the future.

Billy: Well, then the only thing I want to say to you is that I’m with you. I have tried my best to convince myself that Victoria marrying Ashland is the right thing to do. I’ve even tried to be very supportive, but I can’t do that anymore because the truth is, I think it’s a mistake. Her and Ashland went from “Hi, how are you” to “I do” like that.

Nick: Interesting observation coming from Mr. Spontaneity himself.
