Mariah: Please, you can’t do this to us. You have to help us. Alright? You — you’ve taken care of us, you’ve given us food and prenatal vitamins and protein bars. The contractions aren’t stopping, so, please, for the love of god, save this baby. Please.

Victor: I assure you that my security will get to the bottom of this. We are working with the police department.

Abby: Thank you, dad. I appreciate everything that you’re doing.

Victor: [ Sighs ]

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Victor: What is it?

Abby: Just I’m a little shaken up. Devon had some thoughts — well, suspicions, really — and, well, at first, my instinct was that there’s no way that that was possible, but now…I don’t know what to believe.

Denise: I’m sorry, devon. I wasn’t able to uncover anything new about mariah copeland’s disappearance.

Devon: Abby’s ex-husband saw an old man who was stocking up on mariah’s favorite prenatal protein bars.

Denise: Okay. Not much there.

Devon: Yeah.

Denise: Did you get a description of the guy?

Devon: Just average height, gray hair, and his shopping list was written on the same kind of paper as mariah’s notepad — has storks on it.

Denise: Hmm. I could follow up on it, but I’m sensing some skepticism on your part.

Devon: This information may lead to something. I just don’t think it’s gonna be to some random old man.

Denise: What are you thinking?

Devon: I’m more concerned about abby’s ex.

Kevin: There’s stitch right there. He’s about to enter the store.

Rey: Alright, do we see the older man he told us about?

Kevin: No, there’s another customer, but she is not who we’re looking for.

Rey: Can we see from any other angles?

Kevin: Uh, let me mark the timecode and see what else is available.

Rey: Let’s see if we can find someone purchasing a bunch of those protein bars.

Kevin: Yeah. No, there’s no one else in the store. It’s stitch, there’s a lady at the frozen foods, and the cashier, but that’s it.

Rey: Well, maybe our guy hasn’t entered yet.

Kevin: Uh…let me pull up and see if there’s a camera at the entrance and maybe just hasn’t come in yet.

Rey: What the hell, kevin? What happened to the footage?

Kevin: I don’t know. It disappeared.

Sharon: Being in mariah’s room and being there with all her things, it was a little overwhelming.

Tessa: I’m a little overwhelmed, too. But you’re a really positive person, sharon.

Sharon: I’m trying — I’m trying to be optimistic. Praying that rey will find mariah and bring her home. It’s just — it’s not easy.

Tessa: Just need to keep trying and send positive energy her way. My disposition’s a little darker than yours, so I have to send out twice as much positive energy to compensate.

Sharon: Yeah, is that right? Is that how that works? You figured it out?

Tessa: Yeah, yeah, yeah, i did. And we just need to visualize her coming back to us healthy, safe, and strong. And we need to take it seriously because mariah has to get through this.

Mariah: [ Gasps ]

[ Groaning ]

[ Exhales sharply ] The contractions are getting stronger. We need help, please. Please hurry. Ohh, ohh. Okay. Okay. Birthing class did not cover this scenario.

[ Groaning ] Abducted, alone, god knows where. About to give birth with no doctor, no medical care.

[ Groaning ] Okay, okay. I hear you. I hear you, little man. Mm. You want out. I got it. But just, please, just relax, okay? Good. Good job.

[ Groaning ]

[ Grunting ] Ahh.

[Girl in bathroom stall] Ugh

Tessa: I was alone in the house, just talking to mariah. I was just telling her how much I missed her and that I was gonna do anything to find her. It’s like we were communicating, and she was telling me that she was scared and that she missed me. I felt her presence because she needed spiritual back-up. I don’t have money, like devon, to hire investigators or the power of two prominent families like abby, so I feel like I’m just sitting on the sidelines. All I can do is use my love to send mariah strength and comfort. To let her know that we care about her and we’re doing anything we can to bring her home.

Sharon: It can’t hurt.

Tessa: You love her, so you can do it, too.

Sharon: How?

Tessa: I think we should remember important moments with mariah, special times, to let her know and reassure her that we love her and that we miss her.

Sharon: Well, I’ll be honest, I’m not sure I have as much faith in this psychic connection as you do, but I want to try.

Tessa: You can do it, too. You just have to — I don’t know — concentrate on a memory.

Sharon: Um, when I first found out that mariah was my daughter, she barely wanted anything to do with me at first. We grew closer over time, but there was always this awkwardness and uncertainty in our relationship. Until this one christmas… she, uh — she was obsessing over what gift to give me, and in the end, she gave me the perfect gift. She started calling me mom.

Tessa: I remember her telling me that story.

Sharon: What special moments with mariah are you thinking about?

Tessa: [ Chuckles ] You know, I — I keep coming back to when things were really bad between us. And [Laughs] She just showed up to my concert and gave an extremely public apology.

Sharon: I saw the video.

Tessa: Yeah, and the rest of the world.

[ Laughs ] It took guts for mariah to bare her soul like that. And it’s those same guts that are gonna bring her home to us again.

Sharon: She’s always been a fighter.

Tessa: She never gave up on me, even when I pushed her away. She believed in the power of our love. Now I’m returning the favor.

Sharon: I wish I had shared more special moments with mariah, but unfortunately, um, we missed out on a lot of each other’s lives before we were reunited. And finding her, having her in my life after all those years was such a great gift. You know, I had to really try to convince mariah that she was loved. It took a lot before she believed it.

Tessa: Well, she knows that you love her now.

Sharon: I hope so. I hope so. I hope she can feel it right now.

Rey: So the footage cut out before our suspect might have walked through the door.

Kevin: It looks that way. But the app didn’t crash and the camera is on, but the footage is gone. But look, look at the timecode. There’s a gap between where we left off and where we are. It’s a minute and 37 seconds.

Rey: Was it a glitch, a problem with the camera?

Kevin: I can’t tell you, but maybe our old man entered during the gap.

Rey: Well, is it possible someone altered the video in case they were trying to hide something?

Kevin: Uh…I would have to do a deeper analysis using equipment at the station, but let’s — let’s — let’s look at what we have in front of us, okay? There’s stitch. And there he is — that’s the guy he described.

Rey: His description was vague, but that is an older man. Can we get a better look at him?

Kevin: Uh…I can try. This footage is not great. The angle is weird.

Rey: Can you get a look at what he’s buying?

Kevin: His cart is empty. But wait, look at stitch.

Rey: He’s at the register checking out already.

Kevin: H– how could he have seen what the old man was buying?

Rey: He’s leaving. There’s no way he got a good look at the guy’s shopping list.

Kevin: And he’s gone. Okay, you know what? Maybe we can check the footage from a few days before and a few days after. Stitch could go to that store a lot. Maybe he just got his days mixed up.

Rey: Or maybe stitch made the whole thing up.

Victor: Devon thinks that stitch may have something to do with mariah’s disappearance.

Abby: Well, he thinks it could be possible. And honestly, I don’t know what to believe. Stitch has been so helpful. He’s been a shoulder for me to lean on. He’s really been a godsend. He’s a great listener.

Victor: This is all so strange, but…wow. I understand that he’s a comfort to you.

Abby: There have been a couple times when I thought maybe he was trying to rekindle what we once had. Maybe he was exaggerating the prospect of the chief of surgery job at the hospital as an excuse to move back here. I mean, separately, it doesn’t seem that out of the ordinary, but when you look at it as a whole, I mean, is devon right to be wary?

Victor: Wait a minute. I remember when stitch first came back into town. After a few greetings and all that, he said, um, something that puzzled me. He was very concerned about you being alone, with chance not being in town. And I remember I felt compelled to remind him that you are happily married.

Abby: You never told me that.

Victor: Well, I didn’t because I didn’t want to upset you.

Abby: I guess the timing of all of it is kind of weird. I mean, stitch came back to town again right before mariah went missing.

Victor: So what are you saying?

Abby: I used to be married to the man. I used to love him. But could it be true? Could stitch have something to do with mariah’s disappearance?

Devon: And so stitch just randomly shows back up in town out of nowhere and starts finding reasons to run into abby and spend time with her and casually bringing up romantic stories from their past.

Denise: Well, that’s all a little creepy — not a crime. But the thing you told me about the job at the hospital, now, that is a big red flag.

Devon: Yeah, I — I agree with you because he claims to be moving back here to take the position of chief of surgery, but he didn’t get that position. My cousin nate got the position.

Denise: So you don’t trust him.

Devon: I would like to, but there’s some things that aren’t adding up. And abby seems to trust him. She’s found a lot of comfort in having him around. She’s going through a stressful time, it’s understandable she wants to have somebody.

Denise: And there he is, a shoulder to cry on.

Devon: But like I said, i hope I’m wrong. I hope that stitch is just a supportive ex.

Denise: So let’s get some answers about this dr. Ben “stitch” rayburn. You know, one thing I’ve learned as a pi, never ignore gut feelings.

Abby: I hate even thinking about stitch this way.

Victor: So do I. God forbid, but listen, as a parent, you must consider all possibilities.

Abby: What, and be suspicious of everyone around me, even people close to me?

Victor: Sweetheart, you can’t pay attention to people’s feelings. You can’t worry about that, not when it comes to the security of your child.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Victor: What do you know about what stitch was up to when he was away all these years?

Abby: Only what he’s told me. He was working as a doctor at a hospital in iowa city and max’s condition has deteriorated.

Victor: [ Exhales sharply ] I mean, what would be his motive? Why would he do something like this?

Abby: I don’t know. And honestly, it makes me feel better, because if I can’t think of a reason, then he’s less likely to be behind it, right?

Victor: Yeah.

Abby: I don’t know. I mean, I don’t think it’s about money. Unless max’s condition caused him to go into debt, but, no, there hasn’t been a ransom demand. And if he needed the money, he just could’ve — could’ve come to me, he could’ve asked me for it, and I would’ve given it to him, regardless of what max did to me.

Victor: If it’s not money, then what? Could it be revenge?

Abby: For what?

Victor: For leaving him.

Abby: No, no, I mean, I — i have spent so much time with him recently. I would’ve picked up on that.

Victor: How much time did you spend with him?

Abby: When you count all of the visits, I — a few hours. Oh, my god. If stitch is behind this, does that mean mariah was locked up all of that time? Was there someone there watching her, making sure that she and the baby had everything they need? Or was mariah just there, alone and terrified?

Mariah: Ohh. Okay. I got to talk to you now, alright? I didn’t think that any of this would happen. When this all started out, I was trying to help abby and chance. Then after I got pregnant, the morning sickness — oh, god.

[ Laughs ] I don’t know what it was, dude, about the smell of my shampoo or peaches. But you made my life miserable for a little while, you know that? And I was really worried that this was gonna be really difficult [Panting] Until you were born. And after I got trapped in here, I just… I started to see things completely differently.

[ Exhales shakily ] You kept me sane. Mm! And I really hope I did the same for you. So I want to let you know now — okay — that you are loved. Yeah. You are, so much. And I promise you, I don’t throw around that term lightly. Not like other people do. You don’t know this, but i didn’t grow up with a lot of love, so…I was pretty bad at it. And even now, there’s only a handful of people that I truly love in this world. You’re one of them, okay? And you’re gonna be fine. Gonna be fine. Because I protect the people i love with my life. Now, we all know progressive offers 24/7 protection,

Kevin: Stitch is a stand-up guy. He’s a doctor, rey.

Rey: Sometimes doctors commit crimes.

Kevin: It doesn’t make any sense. If he is behind mariah’s disappearance, why would he suggest looking at evidence that could so easily be disproved? And why would he mess with the video? What would he gain from that?

Rey: He’s sending us on a wild goose chase, keeping us busy and distracted from what’s really going on, so let’s not waste time.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Kevin: Finally. The it team was able to get through the encryption on mariah’s phone. We have a location.

Rey: Oh, good.

Tessa: It’s a miracle that mariah and I are still together. We’ve both made so many mistakes.

Sharon: Well, that’s all in the past, and right now we’re focusing on the present. You are very much a part of mariah’s life, and I am so happy about that.

Tessa: I appreciate it. I know that I gave you a million reasons for you to want me to stay away from her. I’m still ashamed of some of the things that I did.

Sharon: You’ve grown past that. You’ve moved so far beyond it.

Tessa: Mariah deserves a lot of credit. She’s the one that helped me understand and accept my past.

Sharon: You two helped each other. You’ve evolved together.

Tessa: No, I think you’re right. Mariah’s taught me so much about love and trust and forgiveness. But I can tell you that whoever is holding her captive, whoever is scaring her, I will never forgive them. And I hope that they get what’s coming to them.

Victor: Hi, devon.

Devon: Mr. Newman, hi.

Victor: I understand you’re concerned about stitch’s behavior.

Abby: I had to tell my dad about your suspicions because i can’t stop thinking about them, and I can no longer the possibility that you might be right.

Devon: Well, I mean, listen, I hope that I’m wrong about stitch ’cause he’s always seemed like a decent guy to me and i know he’s been supportive of you. I don’t want to cause you any more stress.

Victor: We got to find the truth.

Devon: I completely agree. I just spoke to my private investigator, and she thinks that he should definitely be looked into. She’s, in fact, switching all of her focus onto him.

Abby: I wish that wasn’t necessary, but we have to do what’s best.

Victor: Sure. Without consideration of other people’s feelings, I think we should get to the bottom of it. Alright?

Devon: Yeah.

Abby: Okay. Let’s do this.

Mariah: [ Groaning ] Ahhh. Okay. Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay. God. Okay. Okay. These are not braxton hicks contractions. Bowie, I really wish you’d take my advice and stay inside. But if you want out, I can’t blame you. Okay.

[ Breathing heavily ] Okay.

[ Whimpering ]

[ Breathing heavily ] If you want today to be your birthday, you’ve got it.

[ Breathing heavily ] So I need to prepare. But how? Before treating your chronic migraine,

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Victor: I think we should confront stitch directly.

Abby: I’m not sure that’s a good idea.

Devon: I’m gonna have to agree with him. We need to get answers fast. And even if he doesn’t know anything, I’m sure he’s — he’ll understand why we had to consider him, ’cause we’re desperate right now.

Victor: If devon’s suspicions are correct, then time is of the essence, okay? Could make all the difference in the world.

Devon: Absolutely. He’s staying at the grand phoenix, you know.

Abby: Okay, let’s go.

Victor: No, darling, I want you to stay.

Abby: If you’re gonna confront him, I should be there.

Victor: No, sweetheart, i don’t think so.

Devon: Yeah. I think that we’re gonna get a much more honest response out of him if you’re not in the room.

Victor: I promise you I will tell you everything that happens at the meeting, alright? Everything. Meanwhile, my darling, please be careful.

Abby: Okay.

[ Sighs ]

Mariah: [ Gasping ] Clean towels. Okay. We can do this, bowie. We can do this, okay? I just need to relax. Shh.

[ Humming ]

So we can handle all this

and more

’cause even things lost in the ocean need the shore

[ Inhales sharply ]

Even things lost in the ocean need the shore

[ Sighs ] Oh, god.

[ Sniffles ] Yeah. Oh, do you remember that? Ohh. That was tessa’s song.

[ Exhales sharply ] You remember, right?

[ Laughs ] Ohh. I know, I am — I’m butchering it [Chuckles] But she’s the singer, not me. Alright?

[ Grunts ]

[ Sighs ] I’m just — I’m just a fan. I’m her fan. God, I miss her so much.

[ Sobbing ] Oh. Ah. I miss her voice. And her sweetness. Just all of it. Oh. She’s probably finished her lullaby for you by now. I wish she was here to sing it to you.

[ Chuckles ] Can you imagine the party that they are gonna have when we get out of here?

[ Exhales sharply ] There’s gonna be so much music. It’s just gonna be a huge celebration. Oh, god. Oh, I’m dizzy. Oh, god, no, no, no, no.

[ Gasping ] Mm, I can’t pass out. I can’t pass out now. Bowie needs me. Bowie needs me.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Stitch: Hey. I got your text. Are you okay? Is there any news?

Abby: No, um, no news. Not since that important lead that you gave the police. I am just so thankful that you saw that man in the store.

Stitch: I wish I could’ve been more help. Maybe there’s a chance my lead could still pay off.

Abby: Well, you know, I’m not sure about anything anymore.

Stitch: I’m sorry.

Abby: The only thing I know is that I feel better when you’re around. (Asaad) since my mother got cancer from smoking,

Tessa: Oh, man. Well, we should get back to the house.

Sharon: Um, before we go, I’d like to say a prayer.

Tessa: I think that’s a beautiful idea.

Sharon: Join me? Dear god… please protect mariah and the baby.

Mariah: [ Groaning ]

Sharon: And give them the strength to get through this ordeal.

Mariah: [ Groaning ]

Sharon: And please give us the ability to find them. They are loved by so many of us.

Mariah: [ Breathing heavily ]

Tessa: Bring them home. Do that, and I will spend the rest of my life making sure that mariah is safe, loved, and happy. Amen.

Sharon: Amen.

Abby: And I just — I cannot believe that this is happening. My dad and devon were here earlier and they want to be helpful, but there is nothing that they can do. I mean, they can hire all of the private investigators and all of the security teams, but none of it matters unless mariah and the baby can come home, and the longer that this goes on, the more scared I get.

Stitch: It’s gonna be okay, abby. Okay? You have to believe that.

Abby: Tessa says that she can sense that something is really wrong with mariah. And I can sense something, too, because I can feel my baby crying for me. And his cries, they pierce my heart. And I don’t know where he is and I don’t know if mariah can take care of him. I don’t know if they even have enough food.

Stitch: I’m sure they do.

Abby: I have never been so scared because I can feel my baby, I can feel him crying for me, and there’s nothing I can do. I don’t even know where he is, and I would give up everything, I would give all of this up, i would pay whatever ransom if i could have them back, if I could get rid of this feeling of being helpless. And I am doing this all alone. Chance isn’t here.

Stitch: Hey. I’m here, abby. Whatever you need. Just tell me what to do.

Devon: Yes, thank you very much. I appreciate it. Okay, so my private investigator just poked another hole in stitch’s story.

Victor: And what’s that?

Devon: He doesn’t even have a job in iowa city. He was fired from it months ago. And that’s not what he told abby.

Victor: Whoa.

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Victor: So he could have used that as a cover to save face.

Devon: You don’t really believe that for a second, do you?

Victor: Detective, did you find anything?

Rey: Hey, yeah, did your team track mariah’s cellphone here, too?

Victor: That’s an important piece of the puzzle, isn’t it?

Rey: Yeah, unfortunately, we only know it’s here in the hotel somewhere, but we weren’t able to narrow it down to a floor or even a wing.

Devon: Well, we should check stitch’s room, right?

Victor: I agree. Let’s do it right now. Depression.

Rey: Stitch isn’t here.

Victor: Any sign of mariah’s phone?

Rey: I haven’t seen it.

Devon: Got to be here somewhere. Let’s call mariah and find out right now.

Victor: Yeah.

[ Cellphone rings ] So it was stitch all the time.

Abby: Um, I shouldn’t lean on you like this. It’s not fair to you.

Stitch: It’s — it’s okay. I want to help you through this.

Abby: I know, yeah, I can sense that. You know, even after all these years, there’s still something between us.

Stitch: I’ve always felt so connected to you.

Abby: Is that why you came back to town? To be with me? Was there ever really a job at the hospital or were you just saying that? Stitch, you being back here, back in town, back in my life, has been such a blessing. Look, and let me be that for you. You know, I can be — I can be your sounding board. You can tell me anything. Anything, and I won’t get angry.

Stitch: I can’t believe how understanding you are.

Abby: Stitch, I know you. And I can see it in your eyes.

Stitch: What?

Abby: Guilt. You feel bad for what happened when we were married. No, no, what happened with max, that was not your fault.

Stitch: No. I’m a doctor. I-I-I… I should’ve seen what was going on with my son. I should have known what he was capable of.

Abby: No. No, see, look, us losing the baby, that was not your fault. That was a painful time for the both of us. And I know how deeply you felt that loss. And I think that’s why you can feel what I’m going through right now because I am about to lose another baby.

Stitch: No, no, we — we won’t let that happen. Okay? I — I admit —

Abby: You admit what? You admit what?

Stitch: I came back here for you. My life has been so hard since I left. I just needed to make things right. I was hoping for some kind of redemption. It was crazy, but I truly believe that you’re the only one who can put me back on course. You can make things right, abby.

Abby: No, we can make things right for each other. All is forgiven. Just please…please tell me where they are.

Mariah: [ Gasping ] Okay, kid.

[ Gasps ]

[ Breathing heavily ] It’s your time to come out now, isn’t it? This is gonna happen right now.

[ Whimpers ] Okay. I can’t talk you into staying there any longer. And I’ve done everything I can to prepare, so I just hope that I’m ready.

[ Gasps ]

[ Groaning ]
