Rafe: Well, the search team is still working.

Rafe: No, we’re working under the assumption that he’s still alive. Now, with that said, we did find his prosthetic leg and blood at the scene and on the knife…

Lucas: I know all that. What I don’t know is why the hell haven’t you arrested brady yet.

Nicole: Brady, chloe told me about this whole mess with philip. Can you call me back when you get a chance, please?

[Knocking on door] Allie’s not here.

Sami: I’ll wait.

Nicole: No, wait in the car.

Sami: No, I’m not–

Susan: I’m not worried about me. It’s my good friend, dr. Marlena evans. She is possessed by the devil. And what is worse than that–

Ej: There’s something worse than being possessed by the devil?

Susan: You are damn right there is! That thing! That thing that’s in her that she’s become, it’s after ciara’s unborn baby.

Shawn: I mean, I thank god you’re back. Oh, my gosh.

Ciara: Whoa, that was kind of intense.

Shawn: Where have you been?

Ciara: Well, I was with ben and marlena.

Shawn: Wait, what?

Ciara: Yeah, and shawn, there’s actually something that I have to tell you about john.

Shawn: Okay, wait, wait, wait; first, let me tell you something about marlena.

Ben: Ciara’s not here. She must have gone out the back way.

Marlena: We can’t let her get back to salem.

Ben: Dr. Evans, I am sorry. I knew she was upset, but I didn’t think she’d run away.

Marlena: If she gets back to town, john will get the truth out of her, and I am terrified that he will come after me and kill me. We’ve got to stop her!

Ben: Okay–oh.

Marlena: [Gasps] He’s here to kill me.

Ciara: What about marlena?

Shawn: Okay, first of all– wait, did she hurt you?

Ciara: Marlena? No. Why would she hurt me?

Shawn: You don’t know.

Ciara: I don’t know what?

Shawn: Listen, ciara. Here, sit down, okay?

Ciara: No, shawn. I’m not gonna sit down. You’re gonna tell me what it is that I don’t know.

Shawn: It’s happened again. Marlena’s possessed.

[Eerie music]

John: Ben, you need to leave us alone.

Ben: No, there’s no damn way that’s gonna happen. What you need to do is get the hell out of here.

John: [Laughs dryly] Recruited him, have you?

Ben: No, she didn’t recruit me, john. All she had to do was tell me what you’ve been doing to her. Well, that’s over now, so you can either get the hell out of here, or I’m going to throw you out.

John: First, you’re gonna listen.

Ben: No, you’re gonna listen because you’re never gonna hurt her again. Do you understand that?

John: Oh, come on, ben. Wake up. You think I would hurt marlena? She’s doing nothing but lying to you.

Ben: Dr. Evans doesn’t lie.

John: No. But that thing does!

[Eerie music]

Susan: Hey, ciara, honey, this is susan. Now, I need you to call me. And whatever you do, don’t go near dr. Marlena evans because she is not her. She is the devil! And sweetheart, you need to keep that little baby away from him, okay? You need to call me. Please, please, please. I’m worried sick.

[Hangs up]

Ej: You were right; you are worried sick. You need to calm down. Would you like a cup of tea?

Susan: No, I wouldn’t like a cup of tea. I just–I need to figure this out. I don’t know what to do.

Ej: There’s nothing left to do. You’ve done everything you could; I mean, there’s only, like, three dozen bradys in this town who are ready to take care of ciara. So why don’t you let me take care of you?

Susan: [Sighs] All right, don’t you laugh about this, sweetheart, ’cause this is what he wants. He wants this. He wants people to think that I’m nutty, and he doesn’t want people to believe me.

Ej: I’m not laughing. I’m just saying, there are a lot of people to look after ciara. Let me look after you.

Susan: [Sighs] You’re such a good son.

Ej: [Chuckles] No, I’m a terrible son. Terrible father, husband, brother, person. But the devil doesn’t bother me like he bothers you, so let me fight him for you.

Susan: Honey, you–you underestimate him. Elvis, I told you, sweetheart, he told me that I had to make a choice between you and john black, and for a moment, I almost plunged a knife into that poor man’s heart.

Rafe: So you see, brady isn’t going anywhere, but if we move too soon and we get the da to issue a warrant and try to build a case right now, we’re not gonna be able to do it and it’s gonna be that much harder to bring charges later. If you want justice for philip, wait.

Lucas: It’s just killing my mom.

Rafe: Yeah, I can only imagine. And I’m sorry, but we are not giving up. We’re not throwing in the towel.

Rafe: Okay? Now listen, I actually wanted to talk to you about sami.

Lucas: Okay.

Rafe: Well, I heard that she was kidnapped right outside my back door. She went to talk to gabi about moving back into the mansion.

Lucas: Yeah, well, that’s what she told us.

Rafe: You’re the one who found her, right, somewhere near wisconsin?

Lucas: Yeah, yeah, she was, like, halfway to madison.

Rafe: Wow. You know, I’ve been trying to get in touch with her. I thought she would want to file a complaint, but I haven’t heard anything.

Lucas: Well, I wouldn’t hold my breath on that. She’s been a little preoccupied.

Rafe: Uh, worried about marlena, right?

Lucas: Oh, yeah, you would think, right? Mom being possessed by the devil and everything, but no. No, no, she’s lost ej, and that demands that once again, she makes a total ass out of herself in front of god and everybody else.

Nicole: What I did was sleep with a man who was in the process of divorcing a woman he despises. I didn’t do anything to you.

Sami: He is my husband.

Nicole: Whereas you meticulously planned to destroy my marriage. It was premeditated and totally personal. And you took great care to make sure it hurt as much as possible.

Sami: I was protecting my brother.

Nicole: Please, you don’t give a crap about eric, otherwise you wouldn’t have put him in the spotlight, with his mother there, telling everyone he was a cuckold.

Sami: [Scoffs]

Nicole: Your very own brother meant nothing to you but collateral damage.

Sami: No.

Nicole: And you don’t care about ej, not really. This whole outrage and moral indignation, it’s nothing but a distraction to everyone, including yourself, about the clear truth. Ej didn’t need a nurse anymore and you weren’t woman enough. I didn’t do this, sami. You did.

Sami: [Exhales sharply] It’s my 4:05 the-show-must-go-on

Rafe: You think that sami is trying to get ej back?

Lucas: Yeah.

Rafe: Wait, you know, for the life of me, I will never understand what she sees in that jerk.

Lucas: I know. I know all those years, she just nursed him back to health, gave him his life back, and he treats her like dirt.

Rafe: Right?

Lucas: You know what, maybe finding him in bed with another woman is the last straw.

Sami: You slept with ej to get back at me.

Nicole: [Scoffs] Uh, I saw the divorce papers weeks ago. Ej didn’t serve you because you were missing, not that it bothered him at all. I didn’t break up your marriage. It was already over. You lost him. And ej knows who you are, and he wants no part of you, you got it? Fine, you know what? You want to blame me, you blame me, but unlike eric and me, there was no outside intervention to break up your marriage. You did that all on your own! You happy now?

Sami: No.

Nicole: You know what, i don’t think this is a good time to talk to allie. Why don’t you just– why don’t you go for a drive, or take a walk, or something?

Sami: Don’t touch me! Don’t you ever touch me, you bitch!

Nicole: Hey! What? “You bitch”?

Sami: You are such a–

Allie: What the hell is going on here?

Ej: Think about it, mother. Now that john and shawn know the truth, do you really think they’ll let anything happen to ciara or the baby? You did your job. That baby is safe because of you. You literally beat the devil.

Susan: [Chuckles] You know just what to say. I think you get that from me.

Susan: Aw. Poor dr. Marlena evans and her poor family. I mean, sami must be worried sick. You know what, I think you should give her a call and you make her feel better like you did with me right now.

Ej: [Clears throat] Mother, as far as I’m concerned, samantha can join her mother in hell and stay there.

Shawn: So the devil’s been biding his time for the last 25 years, waiting for the right opportunity to take over marlena’s body again. But first–first he got to grandpa doug. That’s why we thought it was cognitive decline.

Ciara: Oh, my god. Is he okay now?

Shawn: Yeah, he’s great. I mean, you should’ve seen him at thanksgiving. At first–first, we thought he wasn’t all there, and then– then he just stood up and he just called the devil out.

Ciara: Wow.

Shawn: It doesn’t matter. Listen, I’ll tell you all that later, but you got to tell me, where’s marlena right now?

Ciara: Oh, my god. Shawn, she’s still with ben.

John: Everything that she has been telling you is a lie because she–

Marlena: No, ben! Ben, that’s not true. He’s the one who’s lying. He’s not the person he claims to be.

John: 25 years ago–

Lucas: So I rescue her, right, and then when we come back, where does she go? She goes groveling right back to ej. And I tried to stop her, I did, but you know what? Maybe it’s for the best because that’s when she found him with–

Rafe: Nicole.

Lucas: Right.

Rafe: Yeah. I ran into both of them at the mansion last night. I just didn’t realize that they were, uh– choose your euphemism.

Lucas: Consummating their– their sweet, tender love affair, right? It makes me sick.

[Sighs] What? It bothers you too, doesn’t it?

Rafe: Well, nicole is my friend and ej is human garbage, so yeah, it bothers me.

Lucas: I get it. I get it, but selfishly, you know, I hope it’s for the best. I hope sami opens her eyes, because I want her back.

Allie: [Sighs] Mom, so nice of you to drop by.

Sami: Don’t patronize me.

Allie: Sorry. Hey, how about we go get a coffee or take a walk around the block?

Sami: I’m fine.

Nicole: I’ll tell you what, why don’t you stay and I’ll go? I have some errands to run.

Allie: Sorry.

Allie: [Sighs]

Sami: I came here to see you. I didn’t start this.

Susan: Yeah, I don’t want to rest and relax. I want to hear about the story. You tell me. You’re gonna go sit on the couch with your mama, and you’re gonna tell me about the whole thing.

Ej: Mother–

Susan: Whole story. It’s gonna be–what? No, we’re gonna go over there right now.

Ej: [Sighs]

Susan: Hmm?

Ciara: And then, marlena told us that john has been beating her. She wanted us to help hide her, take her someplace safe, someplace far away from salem.

Shawn: And did you?

Ciara: Well, I was always kind of skeptical, but ben totally believed her. It was so similar to what he went through as a child.

Shawn: And she knew all about that.

Ciara: Right, so anyway, then john showed up, and shawn, it was like something I have never seen before. He was crazy. He was pounding on the door, he was threatening to kill her–

Shawn: As if on cue.

Ciara: What?

Shawn: I don’t think that that was john. Now, right, marlena– or the devil– has these weird, crazy powers. I mean, on thanksgiving, she just broke the handcuffs like they were nothing, and then she threw me across the room with one arm and knocked me out.

Ciara: Okay, well, if it wasn’t john, then who was it?

Shawn: I think the question is, what was it? And god only knows.

John: [Panting] She’s the de–

[Choking]

[Muffled groans]

Marlena: And that is enough of your lies!

Ben: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! Dr. Evans, what the hell are you doing? I’m gonna make sure that he never, ever hurts me again.

Ben: He’s tied up. He cannot hurt you, and he cannot hurt anybody else every again, okay? You are safe, dr. Evans.

Marlena: He needs to pay.

Ben: And he will, but that is not up to you or us. Dr. Evans, you were the one that taught me that violence– if you hurt him, it will get bad for you. It will not help you. It will hurt you.

Marlena: It is so good to hear my words coming back. I’m so proud of you. I’m so grateful.

Ben: Well, I’m glad that I can help you for once after all that you’ve done for me, but do you think maybe you could just drop the knife all the way down?

Marlena: Look, I’ve asked so much of you already. It’s time that you focus on yourself, your wife, and that new baby of yours.

[Ominous music]

Ciara: Damn it, shawn, I have to get to ben before marlena hurts him.

Shawn: Ciara, no!

Ciara: Shawn–

Shawn: What, are you in some sort of denial? I just told you that susan said that the devil is after your baby. I’m not letting you go anywhere near marlena.

Ej: So not only was she sleeping with her ex-husband, she was going to try and hide it from me as well.

Susan: Hmm, that is not totally unheard of. Hmm, wait. Oh, wait, haven’t you done that maybe once or twice?

Ej: Can we not go there, mother? We’re talking about the present, okay?

Susan: All right. Fine, fine, fine. Fine, fine, fine, all right. So how’d you find out?

Ej: Kristen.

Susan: Pfft, should’ve guessed. How it must’ve pained her to spread that bad news. All right, well–all right, there’s gonna be one thing that you’re gonna have to do now.

Ej: I’ve already started the divorce proceedings.

Susan: Oh, no! No, no! You have to forgive her.

Ej: Forgive her?

Susan: Yeah. Good lord, elvis. I mean, after all that time she spent with you in italy. I mean, she gave her life over to save you.

Ej: Well, even if I felt inclined to forgive her, which I don’t–

Ej: It might be too late. Last night, samantha caught me in flagrante.

Susan: I don’t know much latin, but I can only guess what that means. Oh, elvis, who were you flagranting with?

Sami: Yeah, it’s pretty amazing, but being kidnapped and thrown in a room isn’t as bad as finding her in my bed, gloating.

Allie: Dad and I tried to tell you not to go.

Sami: No, that is the point. The point is nicole is a vicious, vindictive, little–

Rafe: I would agree.

Ciara: So she left nashville almost exactly at the same time we found out about the baby.

Shawn: Susan knew you were pregnant and nobody told her.

Ciara: Right, but she came to warn us about some evil presence that was after my baby. Only I had just convinced myself that it was crazy susan being crazy susan. Like, how did she even know that I was pregnant in the first place, you know, but now–

Shawn: Okay, listen to me. Listen to me. Listen to me, all right? I’m gonna go get ben from marlena. You’re gonna stay here. I’m gonna have belle come here. I’m gonna call her, but you cannot answer the door for anybody– nobody unless it’s belle.

Ciara: Okay, well, how do i know that it’s even really belle, especially after what you just told me about john? How am I supposed to know that?

Shawn: I don’t–box top.

Ciara: “Box top.” What is that?

Shawn: Box top is claire’s safe word from when she was a kid, all right? Belle will know what it is.

Ciara: Are you sure about that, shawn? Because if it is the devil, I–

Marlena: We need to go to salem. To the police.

Ben: The police? I thought you said they’re too close with john, they won’t believe us.

Marlena: Well, I–I do think that it’s time to trust that the truth will set us free.

Demon marlena: Oh, brother. The things I do for hate.

Allie: I saw firsthand what ej did to you in italy.

Sami: He was in pain.

Allie: And when you were sad and alone and you went back to dad, I mean, did he show any compassion? No, he kicked you out of his house, out of his life.

Sami: I shamed him. He’s a dimera. Revenge is in their dna. But allie, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t love me.

Allie: Oh, my god. Mom, wake up! Wake up, okay? You blame dad, you blame nicole, you blame his dimera-ness. Ej dimera has treated you like crap, and it is everybody else’s fault but his. Damn it, mom, we know that if he wanted a woman in his bed, he could just snap his fingers, but sleeping with nicole? With nicole? There is nothing that he could do that would hurt you more than that. And trust me, if you didn’t walk in on them, he would’ve made sure you found out.

[Sighs] And dad– dad would, and he has, walked through fire for you, okay? He loves you! And not only does he just love you, he likes you. Respects you, okay? He’s on your side. And I know, I know, okay? You and ej, you’re a– a love for the ages, but from where I sit, that “love for the ages,” it looks a lot more like life in prison with no parole.

Lucas: Uh, we were just– what, a little guy talk, right? Yeah, that was about it. I actually have somewhere I have to be, but call me if you hear about philip, okay?

Rafe: Yep.

Nicole: I just heard about him. I’m so sorry, lucas.

Lucas: Yeah, thank you.

Nicole: You two weren’t talking about philip. You were talking about me and sami.

Rafe: Hmm, yeah. That’s right.

Nicole: [Chuckles dryly] Well, let me just confirm what I think he told you– that ej and I slept together last night.

Susan: Are you and nicole serious?

Ej: We’re… taking things slowly.

Susan: Hmm… ej: [Sighs] I know that “hmm.” You don’t think she’s good enough for me, but then again, you don’t think any woman’s good enough for me.

Susan: Well, you know, i changed my mind about that one. Huh, I mean, you know that thing that people say, you know, “for better, for worse,” when they get married?

Ej: Oh, I know where you’re going with this.

Susan: You know, elvis, I have never known anyone to do “for worse” better than sami. And you wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for her, and you know that.

Ej: Yes, you’re right, and I came back here to try and start over with her. And then, I found out that not only has she been unfaithful, but she would do whatever it took to make sure I never found out. And for all I know, she intended to go on being unfaithful.

Susan: Oh, because if she would’ve been honest about it, you would’ve forgiven her about doing something that you’ve been doing since god was a boy?

Ej: Oh, we were married.

Susan: Oh, hypocrisy, thy name is man! You know what, elvis? The devil told me–he told me that you’ve already secured your place in hell, and right now–right now, sweetheart– you need to find it in your heart; you need to find that love in your heart to save your soul.

Ej: The love in my heart is no longer for samantha.

Susan: Oh, bull! Bull, bull, bull, bull, bull! She hurt your feelings, she wounded your pride. Son, look at me. You are acting like a little, spoiled brat. Yes, you are. You know what, she was unfaithful not to hurt you. She was grieving. I mean, she’s been grieving to move heaven and earth to save you. And what do you do? Allie: I hate the way he treats you. And I–I really hate that you let him. I think I understand. I mean, after everything you went through trying to save him, basically giving up your life for his. It’s hard to think all that wasn’t worth it.

Sami: It was worth it.

Allie: Ej doesn’t think so. Look at all the things you’ve forgiven him for. And not only does he not forgive you, but he thinks he has the right to punish you. Mom. Mom, just think about it. How do you feel when you’re with dad? Do you feel bad and unworthy, or do you feel– well, I don’t know. I mean, I can’t tell you how you feel.

Sami: No, you can’T.

Allie: But maybe something happened between you and dad not just because you were lonely, but because there’s always been something between you two. And he was your first great love. And maybe he’s your last. People everywhere living with type 2 diabetes

Nicole: So where are you gonna start, rafe? How horrible ej is or how dumb I am?

Rafe: No.

Nicole: Oh, you know, today just started out great. You know, at first, I was trying to find out if my business partner was gonna be charged with murder, yeah. Oh, and then, sami showed up. Yay! So I left so that she could tell allie in private what a whore I am. And then, I show up here, and my two “friends” are swapping details about my sex life.

Rafe: Hmm, I’m sorry.

Nicole: Oh, don’t worry about it. I’m used to my private life being in the public domain. “No secrets” walker, that’s what they call me.

Rafe: I’m sorry that you’re unhappy. And I’m sorry because I think part of it is my fault.

Sami: Sweetheart, nobody really knows what goes on in a marriage except the two people in it, okay? I know you are just trying to help me.

Allie: Fair enough.

Sami: And you’re right. Your father is a wonderful guy, and I do love him.

Sami: [Laughs forcefully]

Allie: I think I needed you to know how I feel about ej and dad. Well, now I know. I love you. And I want you to give your little boy a big hug for me, okay?

Susan: And you’re alone?

Ben: Good, you’re here. We were just coming to see you.

Shawn: Really?

Ben: Yes, really. It’s john. You need to arrest this guy. He’s been terrorizing dr. Evans.

Shawn: No, ben, dr. Evans is the one terrorizing john, among others.

Ben: What are you talking about?

Shawn: It’s happened again. This is not marlena evans. This is the devil.

[Tense music]

Lucas: You okay?

Allie: Yeah. Well, I know that you have a lot going on with phil missing, and, I mean, I’m really worried about everything with grandma marlena, but I think I have some good news to share.

Lucas: All right, I’m listening.

Allie: I just had a long talk with mom, and I think maybe I got through to her.

Lucas: Yeah, right, that never happens; come on.

Allie: I know, usually not, and, I mean, there is a chance that I’m being overly optimistic, but I put in a good word for you. And I reminded her that you, unlike ej, love her and treat her respectfully and compassionately and all that. And I know that you guys still love each other.

Lucas: What did she say?

Allie: Well, she mainly listened, but I think that mom might finally be realizing that things are really over with her and ej and that if she’s going to be to be with anyone, she’s going to be with you.

Kate: No, I’m ready.

[Monitor beeping]

Brady: So come on. Any news on philip?

Belle: No, not since last night.

Brady: Belle, he’s telling me they found his leg, but they haven’t found him?

Belle: Not yet.

Brady: He’s gotta be alive. This–I’m not worried about being arrested. I’m worried about him. I’m worried about chloe. Have you seen her? She’s a wreck about…

Belle: Dad.

Brady: What are you–how’d you–did you get released already?

John: Yeah, I was. How you doing, son?

Brady: I’d be doing a hell of a lot better if I was out of this bed, dad. I need to go help with the search for philip, ’cause the cops don’t know what the hell they’re doing.

John: All right, I’ll head on down to the station. See if I can move this investigation along a little.

Belle: No, I can call shawn.

John: I need to help!

Brady: Dad, I know you want to, but listen. I’m okay. Marlena’s not, all right? She is possessed, and she’s dangerous, and she’s still out there, so you need to go find her.

Ben: Good morning.

Ciara: Good morning. Why didn’t you wake me?

Ben: Because you were sleeping so peacefully. It’s not like we have anywhere else to be.

Ciara: Where’s marlena?

Ben: She went for a walk. She said she was feeling a little out of sorts, since that gabriel guy showed up yesterday. I think he spooked her.

Ciara: Really? Because I thought that he was really nice. He was very concerned for our baby, and quite frankly, ben, I am too.

Ben: Ciara.

Ciara: I know you said that i looked like I was sleeping peacefully, but I was not. I was actually having some pretty bad dreams.

Ben: About what?

Ciara: Everything, including this place. Let’s just get the hell out of here, ben, please. Please just take me home.

Kate: Yeah, yes. It’s his–it’s philip’s leg.

Rafe: You sure?

Kate: Yes. He got it a couple of years ago. It’s a new one, and I recognize it.

Rafe: Okay. We need to verify it officially if possible.

Kate: I brought the serial number I got.

Rafe: Oh, great.

[Soft music]

Kate: I knew this was gonna happen, but still, it’s a shock.

Roman: Kate, katie, I am so sorry.

John: Yeah, I’m worried about doc, but I’m not leaving you, kid, not when you’re facing potential criminal charges here.

Brady: I know it looks bad, but, dad, I didn’t hurt philip.

John: I know you didn’t, but I’m still not walking out on you. Not with all these injuries.

Brady: It’s okay, it’s okay. I actually have a fairly decent lawyer on the case, so we are–the best lawyer on the case. You don’t have to stay with me. You need to focus your energy on marlena.

Belle: Yeah, I agree, dad. I mean there’s really nobody better suited to fight the devil than you. You’ve already kicked his butt once and saved mom.

Brady: There’s no doubt you’re gonna do it again.

John: Gotta find her first.

Brady: Then do it. Go find her.

John: Fine, I love you, kids.

John: Take care of yourself.

Marlena: Good morning.

Ciara: Oh, goodness. I did not hear you come in.

Marlena: Oh, sorry. I didn’t mean to startle you. I did happen to overhear you talking about wanting to go home.

Ciara: Yes, well, you can understand that, right?

Marlena: I do, of course. All the way out here, and you’re protecting me from an abusive husband. That’s a lot to take on.

Ciara: Yes. It is, but don’t get me wrong. Ben and I do want to help you.

Ben: And we will.

Ciara: But even you can admit that this can’t go on indefinitely.

Marlena: What can’t?

Ciara: Well, dr. Evans, I’m expecting a child, and we are in a cabin in the middle of the woods. I can’t do this forever. I need to go home.

Kate: Did you not hear me? I want brady arrested for murder.

Rafe: I know how difficult this is, but I don’t have enough for an arrest. I…

Kate: Brady was found drunk covered in philip’s blood with a knife that had his bloody fingerprints all over it, philip’s phone with a horrific text from brady. What more do you need, rafe?

Rafe: I understand your frustration, but–

Kate: Oh, my god! The district attorney was going to arrest him yesterday, just for that evidence, and now, we have this?

Roman: Look, kate. Let’s let rafe handle this, all right? Let me take you–

Kate: No, I’m not going anywhere until the police commissioner does his job and puts brady in a cage, where he deserves to be, for killing my son!

[Sobbing] Oh, god.

[Monitor beeping]

Brady: Dad’s gonna find marlena.

Belle: I know, I’m just–

Brady: What?

Belle: I’m just worried sick. This is the devil we’re talking about.

Brady: No, no, hey. He doesn’t stand a chance. Not against the love that those two share, right?

Belle: All right, listen. Let’s just get back to your case. I need you to take me through everything again, from the moment you left here.

Brady: I went to the pub to get dad some takeout. Ran into chloe. We talked for a few minutes outside, and then she left.

[Sighs] Then it’s a blank.

Belle: So you don’t remember going into the pub and ordering a drink?

Brady: No.

Belle: Is it possible that you did? What, what is it?

Brady: I did order a drink recently. It was at a bar outside of town on thanksgiving, all right? Hey, hey, I didn’t drink it. I even called maggie and had her come and meet me there.

Belle: So why’d you order it in the first place?

Brady: A couple reasons, belle, okay? Kristen had just tried to kidnap our daughter rachel, and I was struggling with my feelings for chloe.

Belle: So maggie showed up.

Brady: She showed up. I blabbered on a bit. I offered to drive her home, and then she offered to take us both to a meeting. I agreed, and that’s when you called and told me dad was in the hospital.

Belle: Yeah, you know, brady, when they found you passed out at the river, your blood alcohol level was three times–

Brady: I’m aware of that.

Belle: The legal limit. There has to be an explanation for that.

Brady: Well, I don’t have one–I don’t know.

Belle: Okay, you were drunk. There has to be an explanation. We just have to figure out what it is.

Susan: John black. Hey, as I live and breathe, praise the lord, you’re living and breathing, too.

John: Hey, susan. You getting out of here?

Susan: Oh, yeah, sure I am. I’m just waiting on elvis to come pick me up.

John: Oh, well I’m glad that you’re all right, and, listen, for the record, I just want to tell you how awful I feel about what you went through.

Susan: Oh, you mean having to eat the food here at the hospital? I mean, I really didn’t mind. I mean, sometimes I’d ask for an extra pudding cup.

John: No, I was talking about when you stabbed yourself.

Susan: Oh. Hey, that wasn’t your fault. No, I mean, your beloved wife and my dear best friend dr. Marlena evans was possessed by the devil. I mean, john, I still have nightmares about that. You and me locked up in the crypt, and then her coming in with the dagger and telling me that I had to kill you, or that she was gonna kill my only child. And really I was hoping that satan would take any human sacrifice. You know, any old human would do, and, well, that’s when I turned that big, old knife, and I stabbed myself.

John: Yeah, well, that was incredibly selfless.

Susan: Well, john, I just did what I had to do. You know, and don’t you worry. I know that dr. Marlena evans had nothing to do with it.

John: Yeah, well, thanks for saying that anyway.

Susan: By golly, I mean it. I mean it, ’cause I know that she would never deliberately hurt you, or me–

John: Yeah.

Susan: Or my son, or she would never, ever–and certainly never, ever hurt an innocent little baby.

John: What are you talking about, susan? Baby, what baby?

Marlena: You can’t abandon me; I need you.

Ciara: Marlena, please hear me out.

Marlena: No, no, but if you go, I’d be terrified to be alone.

Ciara: Well, I’m terrified, too; I am pregnant with my first child, and I have a very important checkup scheduled for this week.

Marlena: I told you I would take care of you.

Ciara: Yes, but you’re a psychiatrist.

Marlena: I’m also a doctor. Well, I’ve delivered lots of babies. Plus, you’re not even near your due date.

Ciara: Yes, that’s right, but I’m scheduled for a sonogram, and we don’t even have that kind of equipment here.

Ben: Yeah, we really do need to go to the hospital, dr. Evans. We need to see kayla and just make sure everything is progressing the way it should.

Marlena: Everything’s fine. I mean, look, you’re a healthy young woman, but if you’re feeling concerned, I can grab my bag and check your vitals.

Ciara: Thank you. That’s all right–besides, we’re getting off track here.

Marlena: No, you know what? I promised you that I would never let anything happen to your baby, and you promised you would protect me, so I’m doing my part. So are you now saying that you’re not gonna do what you promised? As a professional bull-rider

Brady: Hey, I swear, I swear I don’t remember drinking.

Belle: All right, I hear you. Then let’s just stay with what you do remember, okay? You said you were about to go into the pub and pick up some food for dad.

Brady: Yes.

Belle: But you don’t remember going inside?

Brady: No, but I must’ve, right?

Belle: All right. Well, let’s just check your credit card statement. See if there are any charges from the pub that day, and that’ll tell us.

Brady: That’s a good idea.

Kate: I’m talking like my son is dead, and actually, I don’t believe that. I don’T. I just need some accountability, you know, some justice, rafe.

Roman: Kate, we know, okay? We all want that, and everybody’s hoping and praying that philip is alive and making his way back home, right?

Kate: Yeah.

Roman: All right.

Kate: But even if he does survive, this was a savage, savage attack, and brady needs to pay for that.

Rafe: Okay, kate, you have my word that I will conduct a thorough investigation, and I will keep you posted every step of the way.

Roman: All right. We appreciate that, rafe. Thank you, okay? All right, let’s go.

Kate: Okay.

[Tense music]

Chloe: Hey.

Roman: Chloe, what brings you down here?

Chloe: I had to come and find out if there was any news–

Roman: The leg belongs to philip.

Chloe: Oh, kate, I’m so–

John: So you think the devil is after ben and ciara’s baby?

Susan: John, I know you’re aware of my gift, my psychic ability. It was–that I had a premonition that made me come back here, to salem. See, I had this vision that ben weston’s little seed was flowering in ciara’s womb.

John: So you knew she was pregnant?

Susan: And a dark and dangerous force was threatening that unborn baby, and that’s when I jumped into my car, and I floored it all the way from memphis to the airport–

John: Oh, okay, okay, so you got to their place, and then–

Susan: Mm-hmm, okay, then ciara let me lay hands on her belly, and oh, lordy. Oh, lordy, I fainted. I fainted dead away because I was right. I was right that that baby was in grave danger. I just didn’t know where the heck it was coming from, and so I tried it again, john. I did, I tried it again. I laid my hands on her, and I was making headway. I was, and then my concentration got broken by none other than dr. Marlena evans.

John: Wait, wait, wait. She was there?

Susan: Well, she was there because I fainted, and ben went to go get her, because he wanted her to help me. But she couldn’t help me, because she wasn’t her. She was him.

John: Okay, fine, and then what happened?

Susan: Oh, and then she whisked me out of there. She whisked me out of there, and that is when I knew something was off. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. I mean, whew, she was being so bossy to me, telling me that I had to get back to memphis, and she was being a bully. And we all know what you have to do with a bully; you have to to stand up to a bully–

John: Absolutely, so did you–

Susan: I sure did stand up to that bully, I did, john. I did, and I told her that I wasn’t going anywhere until I found out who wanted to harm that little baby.

John: All right, and then what did she do?

Susan: Oh, she grabbed my wrist. She grabbed my wrist. Oh, john black. I have never, never in my life felt that kind of jolt of electricity. And that is when I knew that she was the danger.

John: That’s because the devil had her.

Susan: Yeah, and then I tried to tell someone, but before I could, she knocked me out, and she turned me into that little pussycat, and then she threw me in the crypt. I mean, it is a miracle that you and I survived, because, john, john, the devil is still out there, and it’s got possession of dr. Marlena evans’ body, and he needs to be stopped at–

John: But susan–

Susan: All costs!

John: Susan, do you have any idea what the devil wants with ben and ciara’s baby?

Susan: I don’t know his exact intentions. I don’t, john, but what I can tell you is that they are evil. Evil, evil.

Marlena: Look, if you break your promise, I could die.

Ben: No, we would never let that happen, dr. Evans.

Ciara: No, of course not. We are going to keep you safe, I promise; you can stay here for as long as you want, and no one is going to find you.

Marlena: That man gabriel found me.

Ciara: What do you mean he found you?

Marlena: I mean, he found this cabin in the woods, so if he could find it, then john could find it.

Ciara: No, not if we don’t say anything to anyone. We won’t say a word, I swear.

Marlena: You don’t get this. I’m fighting for my life here. Look, please, I’m begging you. Please, just stay a little while longer.

Ben: Dr. Evans, I really want to go to ciara’s sonogram appointment, but if you are scared to stay alone, then I guess ciara could go to her appointment on her own. I could stay here.

John: No worries, susan. Once I find doc, I’m gonna get this whole thing figured out.

John: Hey.

Kate: So you better pray. You better pray that philip is alive, that brady didn’t plunge that knife into his chest and then throw his body into the river.

Shawn: But then she started texting them. Like, following up, to see if they were still trying.

John: That’s too strange.

Shawn: Yeah. Belle thought so, too, that it was pushy, and it was intrusive, and it didn’t sound like her mother.

Susan: Yeah, because it wasn’t her mother! It was satan. Yes, and you know what that means, don’t you? That the devil was obsessed with that baby before ben and ciara even conceived it.

Ciara: No, everything is not okay. Ben made his choice, and it’s not me.

Ben: Ciara.

Marlena: No, wait, wait, wait, wait, ben, come on. Come on. Look, her hormones are raging. Give her a little time to cool down.

Ben: She’s really upset with me right now.

Marlena: I know, but she’s got no reason to be angry with you. I’m sorry that I’ve driven a wedge between the two of you.

Marlena: I’m so glad to hear that.

Ben: I’m gonna talk to ciara. I’m gonna make her understand.

John: And I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out why the hell the devil would come back to salem after all this time.

I’m searching my mind for some kind of explanation. I just haven’t found one yet, but I just want you to know I am thinking, and thinking, and racking my brain as to how this could have happened. I just don’t have any answers yet, but as soon as I figure this out, I’ll let you know. And I just–please. I just need you to believe in me. Okay.

Kate: Nothing.

Shawn: The blood on the knife is a match for philip’s, but the divers haven’t found anything in the river.

Melinda: Philip’s blood is on the knife. Philip’s missing. Brady black was found in the same spot that philip was last seen alive covered in blood which matched philip’S. That’s enough for me. Go make the arrest.

Shawn: What? Without a body? What am I gonna charge him with?

Belle: Yeah. I’d like to know the answer to that too.

Belle: Yes. I am. And I was just telling my husband that your entire case against my client is completely circumstantial.

Chloe: What do you mean? What evidence?

Belle: You know what, chloe? I’m here as brady’s lawyer. So I’m sorry, I have to ask you to leave.

Belle: The da could call chloe as a witness.

Brady: If it goes to trial. It won’T. Because I’m innocent.

Belle: Shawn got the results of the comparison between philip’s blood and the blood found on the knife. It’s a match.

Chloe: Oh, my god. Philip?

Victor: So the official police position is that my son was attacked by my grandson?

Shawn: It’s not official.

Victor: Well, then tell me what you know for sure.

Shawn: Well, chloe was the last person to see philip. They were down at the riverbank together. And they have reason to believe that brady had been there.

Victor: What reason?

Shawn: Well, they found his watch on the ground. So chloe left philip to go and find brady. And she didn’t have any luck. And when she returned at the riverbank, philip was gone, and brady was lying on the ground covered in blood. But it wasn’t his blood. And there was a knife that was next to him that had blood on it as well, but it wasn’t brady’s blood. Our labs ended up testing it, and it’s a positive match for philip’S.

Maggie: Oh. I can’t believe what I’m hearing.

Victor: I knew this was going to happen. I just knew it.

Maggie: Oh, victor, you’ve got to keep a cool head for philip’s sake and brady’S.

Shawn: Wait, hold on. What do you mean that you knew this was gonna happen?

Victor: Chloe lane was in the center of this whole thing. I knew that damn tramp would be the death of one of those boys.

Ej: Kidnapped?

Brady: No. I’m gonna do whatever I have to do to clear my name. Chloe–chloe–chloe has doubts about what I did last night, and I’ve known her forever. So what do you think the cops think? What do you think this whole damn town thinks what happened?

Shawn: Look, there’s still hope that philip is out there and he’s alive and well.

Victor: Well, if you believed that, you wouldn’t be dragging the damn river. You think philip’s dead, don’t you?

[Phone rings]

Shawn: Detective brady. Okay. All right. I’m on my way.

Victor: That about philip?

Shawn: The divers have found something.

Maggie: [Sighs]

Lucas: Did victor give you any clue about what’s going on?

Kate: No. He just wants me come over right away. And somehow I don’t think it’s because philip’s getting a citizen of the year award, you know?

Lucas: You want me to go with you? Give you a little backup?

Kate: No. Thanks, honey. I think you’ve been through enough today already. You could stay here, though, until roman gets back. You know, it’s his bowling night.

Lucas: I will. No problem. I got it.

Kate: Okay. Thank you. Hey, I’ll let you know– let you know how it goes.

Lucas: Okay. Hey, mom. I’m sure philip is fine.

Kate: Yeah. No. I am–I’m sure he’s fine too. See you later.

Ej: You were being held prisoner and you called lucas?

Sami: No. I called allie. And lucas happened to be standing there. And he helped me figure out where I was, and he came and rescued me.

Nicole: How chivalrous of him.

Sami: Shut your mouth or i will shut it for you.

Ej: You never called me to say you were kidnapped.

Sami: I did call you, ej. Of course I called you. But your phone was dead. Maybe too much sexting with nicole.

Ej: All right. Fine. Let’s just say you were kidnapped. Why was there no ransom demand? Who would want the aggravation of holding you captive against your will unless there was money to be made?

Sami: We’re looking at her.

Nicole: What? You think I had you kidnapped?

Sami: Well, you got me out of the way so you could have your chance with ej.

Nicole: Oh. Okay. You know what? I have had enough. Why don’t you call me if and when you get this nutjob out of your life. Okay?

Ej: You only have one shoe on.

Nicole: Yeah. I’ll hop to the car if I have to.

Nicole: Oh, sami. You know what? I wasn’t gonna stoop to your level. But then I thought, “why not?”

Ej: Tt’s enough. That’s enough. Samantha, you are not wanted here. This is no longer your house.

Sami: I was kidnapped. And you’re not letting me stay?

Ej: I will throw you out myself if I have to.

Sami: This isn’t over. Not by a long shot. Why give your family just ordinary eggs

Ava: So did you mean what you said before?

Rafe: Uh, what did I say?

Ava: Well, about you being in the christmas spirit. Cheers. Because we’re together this year.

Rafe: Why would you doubt that I meant that?

Ava: You know, I’m just–guess I’m feeling insecure, feeling that I’m not worthy of somebody as wonderful as you.

Ava: But you know how it goes, right? The more you care about someone the harder it is to be cool, and then you’re even more needy, and then you just want the reassurance that the other person feels the same way. Idiot.

Rafe: Okay. Hold on. I think I may know a way to reassure you.

Ava: Yeah. That actually might be working.

Ej: Then for the sake of our children, I’m glad lucas brought her back safely. And as far as you and i are concerned, samantha is still in my past. And you are my future.

Kate: I–no, I don’t want to sit down. People only ask you to sit down when there’s bad news, victor. So just tell me. Was philip arrested?

Victor: No, it’s nothing like that. He’s missing, kate. And the police suspect foul play. They think someone may have hurt our boy…or worse.

[Monitor beeping]

Belle: The best thing that you can do right now is just stay here in the hospital and get better. Okay? We’ll leave the investigating to the police. And I’ll start putting your defense together.

Brady: Thank you. Thank you for getting here so quickly. Thank you for everything. I owe you.

Belle: Oh, yeah, you do. Just wait until you get my bill.

Chloe: [Laughs]

Brady: [Mumbles].

[Phone beeps]

Belle: Oh, um… shawn said the divers found something in the river.

Chloe: Oh, my god. Philip?

Shawn: You’re about to find out.

Melinda: Good god, what is that?

Shawn: It’s a prosthetic leg. The only person I know that needs one of those is philip kiriakis.

[Monitor beeping]

Brady: Oh, god.

Chloe: How are you feeling?

Brady: Ooh. Um, I have a headache. I’m really achy. If I didn’t know better, I’d think I had a hangover or something. Why am I–why am i in the hospital?

Chloe: I was hoping you could tell me.

[Dramatic music]

Ava: You still haven’t seen my text. Where are you, rafe?

Gabi: Aw. Lose your boyfriend? Please say it’s for good.

Ej: Well, well, well. What have we here? What are you two doing out in the cold?

Nicole: We just ran into each other.

Ej: Mm. You were invited. You were not.

Rafe: I invited myself.

Ej: Ah.

Rafe: Official police business.

Ej: Regarding?

Rafe: Your sister. I’m sure you’ve heard that she managed to escape custody again. And seeing as though you’re such a tight-knit clan, I figured it’d be a good idea to interview the whole family.

Ej: Chad’s not available.

Rafe: I’ve already spoken with chad. He says he doesn’t have any idea how kristen managed to pull this off. What about you? Any ideas?

Ava: I have no idea what you’re talking about.

Ej: Oh, I think you do, ’cause you helped my sister escape.

Ava: How do you know what’s going on with kristen? I read you refused to represent her to protect your image.

Ej: While I’m in no position to help kristen publicly, I have been watching her very closely. I’ve made it a point to have eyes and ears everywhere.

Ava: Really?

Ej: Mm. I know you used your “family connections” to intimidate the guards who were escorting her to statesville. You scared them into letting her go.

Rafe: I asked you a question.

Allie: Oh, my god, I thought you’d just gone somewhere to get over everything that happened with ej. I never would’ve thought you’d been kidnapped.

Sami: I heard you thought I had sent you a text saying I needed time away?

Allie: Yeah, I should have known you wouldn’t go that long without calling.

Sami: Did you miss me messing up your life?

Allie: I feel so bad. I mean, we should have been looking for you. You were probably so scared.

Sami: I was very scared. And then I realized they weren’t gonna kill me. And then I just got mad.

Allie: Thank god they didn’t hurt you.

Sami: I’m so glad to be home. Oh, allie, I love you so much.

[Tender music]

Gabi: You know, I’d say grab a spoon, but I really don’t feel like sharing.

Ava: Oh, it must take a lot of energy to be such a bitch all the time.

Gabi: I just figure if I keep it up, you’ll get the hint and get out of here.

Ava: Oh, I’m not going anywhere, even after that number you pulled on me with rafe. He knows you’re a liar, so I’d watch my mouth if I were you.

Gabi: See, I’m not worried. It’s only a matter of time before you screw things up. You’ll get tired of playing the little hausfrau and cook up some other scheme, tell a bunch of lies, maybe have another dead guy on the floor. You know, rafe’s sweet, but he’s not stupid. One of these days, he’s gonna dump you. He’s gonna dump you for good.

Ava: [Scoffs]

Ej: I assure you, I had nothing to do with my sister’s vanishing.

Rafe: Hmm, well, she couldn’t have pulled off a trick like that by herself.

Ej: Didn’t come from me.

Rafe: Really?

Ej: Mm.

Rafe: ‘Cause you seem to be kristen’s nearest and dearest.

Ej: For the sake of my company, I’ve had to keep my distance.

Rafe: Really? Yeah, wouldn’t want to tarnish that noble dimera name.

Ej: Well, I’m sorry to disappoint you, but my hands are clean.

Ej: And even if she did have a coconspirator, she must have enlisted some other poor old soul.

Rafe: Any idea who?

Ej: Isn’t it your job to figure that out? In fact, that’s what you probably should do. I wouldn’t want to keep a beautiful woman waiting.

Rafe: Hmm. You two have a great night.

Ej: Mm.

Tripp: All right, yeah, blood pressure’s a little high, but that’s understandable. But after what you’ve been through, I’d say you’re in pretty good shape.

Sami: Look who sounds like a doctor.

Tripp: Yeah, it’s all talk right now. I still have a long way to go.

Allie: He does not. He is almost through with medical school.

Sami: Oh, wow. Good for you. See, told you I was gonna be fine.

Lucas: Yeah, well, what she’s not telling you is, the guy who was guarding her pushed her down, and she fell pretty hard.

Tripp: Did you hit your head?

Sami: No.

Lucas: Yes, you did.

Tripp: Did you lose consciousness?

Sami: No. Right?

Lucas: Yeah.

Tripp: Okay, well, I definitely suggest that you see a real doctor to let them check you out.

Lucas: She will. I’ll make sure she sees a real doctor. You’re gonna take it easy. You’re gonna be careful.

Sami: Okay. All right, lucas. Seriously, thank you so much for rescuing me. Your dad is a real hero.

Allie: Oh, I believe it. What bothers me is that we don’t know who the villain is.

Sami: Believe me, I want to know who it is too. Doesn’t your family deserve the best?

Chloe: So what’s the last thing that you remember?

Brady: [Sighs] Running–running into you at the pub. I was–I was getting takeout for dad. Is he okay? Is he all right?

Chloe: No, he’s fine. That’s really all you remember?

Brady: [Sighs] Everything–it’s all– everything’s a blank.

Chloe: So you don’t know why you went down to the river?

Brady: I went down to the river?

Chloe: Yeah.

Brady: How do you know that?

Chloe: Because I found you lying there on the ground.

Brady: Is that how I got in here? What the hell happened? Chloe, what, did I fall? Did I hit my head? My head feels like– what happened?

Chloe: I don’t know, but… you were passed out. And when you came to, you were– you were drunk, brady. Really drunk.

[Dramatic music]

Belle: I just can’t believe this. Brady hasn’t had a slip in ages.

Shawn: His blood alcohol was three times the legal limit.

Belle: So where is he now?

Shawn: He’s at the hospital, flushing his system out.

Belle: I just don’t understand this at all.

Shawn: Well, your dad wasn’t eating very much, so brady went to the pub to get him something that he thought he’d like better than the hospital food. And I don’t know, I guess, you know, the temptation was just a little too strong.

Belle: No, my family does not need this right now.

Shawn: I know. I know. I’m sorry. That’s–that’s not everything. Chloe’s the one that found him. He was passed out by the river’s edge, and he was covered in blood.

Belle: What? Why didn’t you tell me he was hurt?

Shawn: It wasn’t his blood.

Belle: Then whose was it?

Shawn: The blood type matches philip’S.

Ej: Dinner is in half an hour. Harold told me that chad and abigail have requested dinner in their suite, so it’s dinner for two. That is unless, of course, you’d like to invite rafe to join us.

Nicole: What does that mean?

Ej: Oh, I could see I was interrupting something close between the two of you. If you would like to finish what you started–

Nicole: Come on. That was all in your mind. We were talking about kristen.

[Sighs] Okay, fine.

Ej: Mm.

Nicole: We were having a moment.

Ej: Should I have stayed back? Not made my presence known?

Nicole: That would be you, wouldn’t it?

Ej: [Chuckles]

Nicole: Look, I know that I have to forget about rafe. I told you that.

Ej: Doesn’t seem like he wants that to happen.

Ej: Then why is he always sniffing around?

Nicole: That’s not what he’s doing. He’s– look, rafe agrees that we need to move on. It’s just a lot harder than we thought it would be.

Ej: Mm. Well, perhaps rafe could put in a little bit more effort.

Nicole: Oh, like you’re an expert in turning off your feelings toward someone? You think I haven’t noticed that you’re still pining for sami?

Ej: [Chuckles] We’ve been over this, nicole.

Nicole: Okay. So that night that you thought she called, I could have done the dance of seven veils and you still would’ve never noticed me.

Ej: That is sheer nonsense.

Nicole: Is it?

Ej: Mm-hmm.

Nicole: You can deny it all you want, but it takes one to know one. I might not be over rafe, but you are definitely not over samantha gene brady.

Sami: I mean, the whole time I was there, I never figured out who was in charge. I only saw these two humans, jason and pete, and believe me, they were not the ones calling the shots.

Lucas: Yeah, I tried to get that guy jason to give me the name of his boss, but he wasn’t talking. And then he escaped. I mean, I’ll bet you peter and jason weren’t even their real names.

Sami: Right.

Allie: So you still have no idea what they wanted from you?

Sami: Not a clue. First, I thought it was something to do with money maybe, but jason made it clear that that was not the issue.

Tripp: Okay, so his boss is rich.

Sami: Maybe. But I do think there is another motive.

Allie: Like what?

Sami: Revenge.

Lucas: Well, you do have your share of enemies, don’t you?

Sami: One person in particular leaps to mind.

Lucas: Who are you thinking of, sami?

Sami: I know who did this to me.

Brady: I don’t–I don’t– I don’t even remember thinking about picking up a drink, let alone doing it. I don’T.

Chloe: Well, then how did you get so wasted? Because you were. They drew your blood and it explains why you can’t remember anything.

Brady: You know how long I’ve been sober. How long I’ve been sober. Why would I screw that up, huh? Why would I do that?

Chloe: I don’t know. Okay, so the last thing you remember was seeing me in front of the pub. You went to go get john some food. But he told me that you never came back here with it.

Brady: All right. Hey, all right, let’s say I–let’s say I had some drinks. Let’s say I got drunk, which I didn’T. How did I get down to the river if I was so blackout drunk, huh? Answer me that.

Chloe: I don’t know.

Brady: And why would i go there?

Chloe: I don’t– philip and I went to the river to go check on the tree that we’d planted together. And when we got there, we saw that somebody had ripped the tree out of the ground, and your watch was lying there next to it. And there was no sign of you.

Brady: Okay.

Chloe: So I went looking for you. I left philip there. I came back here, and that’s when your dad told me that you never came back here with any food. So I went–I went back to the river and that’s when I found you lying unconscious there on the ground.

Brady: No.

Chloe: And philip was gone, and there was a knife lying next to you.

Brady: The knife– where did I get a knife?

Chloe: I don’t–

Brady: I have a knife?

Chloe: I don’t know. But all I know is that that knife and you we both covered in blood and it was the same blood type as philip’S.

Brady: What? What?

Chloe: Yeah. It’s true, brady.

Brady: What does–what does philip have to say about all of this?

Chloe: Nothing, because he’s still missing.

[Suspenseful music]

Brady: You think that I did something to him, don’t you?

Belle: So you’re saying that brady got loaded and went after philip with a knife. Why would he do that?

Shawn: I don’t know. I haven’t gotten a statement from him yet. But chloe confirmed what you said about brady being jealous of philip.

Belle: Well, did you get a statement from philip?

Shawn: No, we haven’t been able to track him down. Nobody can find him.

Belle: Oh, my god.

Shawn: And there’s a trail of blood, all right, the same blood that they found all over brady, that leads down to the river’s edge.

Belle: So you’re saying it looks like philip got knifed and then staggered down there and– oh, my god. Well, philip just has to be okay. He has to be.

Ava: I don’t think you get how deep rafe’s feelings are for me. I did screw up. Yeah. I did go behind his back and scheme with philip to steal your company. Guess what. He forgave me.

Gabi: Only because your plan was a dud. If you and philip had really pushed me out of gabi chic, you’d be on the street now.

Ava: And you weren’t here when rafe and I talked. He sees how you treat me, and he hates it. And he knows that’s why I did what I did. And you know what? I wouldn’t bank on me being the one who ends up on the street.

Gabi: You think you’re such an operator. But all you really are is just an ex-mafia princess who has no job, no home of her own, and only seems to be able to make some mediocre pasta.

Ava: [Laughs] Huh. You know, I’m also pretty good with one of these. So the next time you decide to shoot your mouth off, I’d remember how carmine merlino ended up on this kitchen floor.

[Tense music]

Rafe: What’s going on?

Ej: I don’t know why you persist in saying that samantha has some kind of hold over me. It’s simply not true.

Nicole: So when you thought she called you, why did you keep checking your phone every ten minutes?

Ej: Business. I was in the middle of a very important negotiation.

Nicole: [Laughs] You used to be a better liar than that.

Ej: [Chuckles] I don’t think you’re giving yourself enough credit here.

Nicole: What do you mean?

Ej: Why would I be thinking about my soon-to-be ex-wife when there is a fascinating, beautiful woman standing right in front of me?

Nicole: Mm. Oh, I have my charms. But I don’t know if anyone is charming enough to flush sami out of your system.

Ej: That’s ridiculous.

Nicole: That’s also what you say when you know I’m right. I guess marlena’s not the only one who has to exorcise a demon.

Ej: Well, then perhaps you could help me with that.

Ej: Oh, I have great faith in your abilities.

Allie: All right, mom, don’t play games. Tell us who did this to you.

Lucas: Yeah, I’m interested to know the answer to that myself.

Sami: I thought you would’ve figured it out for yourself. It had to be nicole.

Lucas: What? Come on. No way. No way.

Sami: Are you kidding me? After I blew up her marriage to eric, she hates me for it.

Allie: So she hired someone to kidnap you?

Sami: Yeah. Payback.

Tripp: You guys always really talk like this?

Sami: Yeah, we do. You’ll get used to it.

Allie: I’m not saying nicole doesn’t hate you, but kidnapping?

Sami: Are you kidding me? She masterminded stealing my newborn child and giving me someone else’S.

Tripp: Did that really happen?

Sami: Yes, it did.

Tripp: I have seen her with your grandson; I mean, she seems like a good person.

Lucas: That’s right. Allie’s right. Why would she risk that? Plus she already got back at you, didn’t she? I mean, she made sure that ej saw that letter that kristen wrote about you and me.

Allie: Yeah, okay? So see, your marriage is over, and so is hers, so you’re even.

Sami: Wait a second. Who said my marriage is over? I’ve got moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.

Ej: Whoo! I feel liberated from my demons already. You?

Rafe: Nicole, is something wrong?

Nicole: Yeah, I’m fine. It must have been that martini. It hit me harder than I thought.

Ej: Dinner will fix that. Are you ready to go to the dining room?

Nicole: Actually, I have a better idea. Let’s go to your bedroom.

Ej: Are you sure?

Nicole: Yeah, I have to get rafe out of my mind. You don’t feel used, do you?

Ej: Yes, but in a good way. I will do my best to wipe rafael hernandez from your consciousness.

Lucas: You don’t think your marriage is over? Ej made it perfectly clear he wants nothing to do with you.

Sami: That was three months ago, and I told him that I was not giving up on us.

Lucas: He kicked you out of the house.

Sami: Oh, it’s not his house. It’s gabi’S.

Lucas: What difference does that make?

Sami: I was going to rafe’s to talk to gabi. I was gonna ask her to let me stay at the mansion. Before I could even knock on the door…

Ava: I was just giving gabi a friendly reminder about pushing my buttons.

Gabi: Oh, no, no, there was nothing friendly about that. Well, come on. Are you gonna arrest her? She was trying to kill me.

Ava: My god, she’s up to her old tricks again, rafe.

Rafe: Are you okay? Are you bleeding?

Brady: [Exhales heavily] Then that means– I mean, obviously I ran into him at some point.

Chloe: Well, shawn and i looked through his phone to maybe figure out where he went, and we just saw a bunch of texts from you.

Brady: Okay. All right, what did they say?

Chloe: Where do you keep your phone?

Brady: In my pants pocket.

Chloe: Do I have permission to check your pockets?

Chloe: Chloe, yeah, go ahead.

[Dramatic music]

Shawn: Here’s a printout of philip’s text messages that came from brady’s phone.

Belle: “Philip, you don’t deserve to be with chloe. If you don’t cut yourself out of her life, I’ll have no choice but to cut you out of it myself.” Brady would never say something like that.

Shawn: Even if he was really drunk?

Belle: Okay. Maybe he’s in love with chloe, but he would never hurt philip. Come on.

[Phone rings]

Shawn: Yeah. Brady. Okay. Thank you. Well, forensics found one set of prints on that knife. It’s brady’S.

Brady: Let me get–let me get this straight. You think that I got so drunk, so damn drunk that I couldn’t remember a damn thing. Somehow I found a knife, and then I went down to the river. And then I went over to that tree of yours and I ripped it up out of the ground. And then I sent some threatening texts to philip. Is that what you’re saying?

Chloe: That’s what it looks like.

Brady: Does it make any sense, chloe? Chloe, I’ve–listen, you’ve never been as drunk as you say that I was. But I have. Let me tell you something. You can’t even remember your name. You can’t even say your name, let alone send threatening texts to somebody and then make good on the threat.

Brady: Did shawn happen to mention how I would know that you would be down at the river? ‘Cause the last thing you told me was that you were going back to the kiriakis mansion to have dinner with philip.

Chloe: I don’t know. I don’t know how to explain any of this. But you were there, and there was a knife with you.

Chloe: It gets worse. Shawn said that they found a trail of blood, the same blood type that you were covered in, that led down to the river. And he’s now got men dragging the river for a body.

Brady: He thinks–he thinks philip is–philip is dead?

[Dramatic music]

Belle: I get how bad this looks, but I mean, come on, there has to be some other explanation. There are no witnesses.

Shawn: Yet.

Belle: All of the evidence that you have is circumstantial. And you don’t even have brady’s statement yet.

Shawn: No, I don’T. I’m just–I’m just saying that it looks really bad.

Belle: Okay. Well, a lot of people have type o positive blood. Do you know for sure that the blood at the scene is philip’s?

Shawn: Look, we’re working on it.

Belle: So you do don’t know.

Shawn: Okay, counselor, you know what? You’re right. Okay, but there is blood on that knife, and it belongs to somebody. That doesn’t make anything better for brady.

Belle: You don’t have a case, shawn. Come on, you know it.

Shawn: Okay, I’ll admit I would be much happier if I had a dna sample from philip, all right? I was gonna get a warrant to go down and search his room at the kiriakis house and find something that we could test. But I just didn’t want to upset victor unless I really had to.

Belle: Well, you don’t have to. I know a much faster way to get philip’s dna.

Ava: So here’s the burger that you didn’t get the chance to eat earlier. I kept it warm, but the fries got a little limp. Sorry about that.

Rafe: Thank you. It’s all right. I’m so hungry, I’ll eat ’em anyway.

Ava: Good. I forgot the ketchup.

Rafe: Mm.

Ava: So you talked to xander. Did he know anything about how kristen escaped?

Rafe: Well, he says that he hates her and he wouldn’t lift a finger to help her. And honestly, I kind of believe him.

Ava: Mm, so is that where you’ve been all night, with xander?

Rafe: Well, actually, I went from there over to start questioning the dimera family.

Ava: Any luck?

Rafe: Chad was the only one there when I got there. He actually just found out that kristen had escaped.

Ava: Oh. I guess that’s what took you so long to get home.

Rafe: Actually, that’s not all. When I was leaving, I ran into nicole.

Nicole: Whoo!

Sami: Thank you again. Lucas, I better get going.

Lucas: Where? Where are you going?

Sami: I’m gonna go see ej, of course. He must be worried about me.

Allie: Mom, come on.

Sami: Well, I know he was mad, okay, about what happened. But that was three months ago. I’ve been gone for three months. And now that he knows that I was in danger–

Allie: He doesn’t know that.

Sami: What?

Allie: He still thinks that you left on your own.

Sami: Nobody told him that I had been kidnapped?

Lucas: What do you want us to do? We found out this morning, okay? We didn’t have time to tell him. I was busy rescuing you. Sorry.

Sami: Of course not. I understand. But you couldn’t call him?

Allie: Mom, grandma’s missing. Grandpa john is in the hospital. I mean, the only person I had time to tell was tripp. I have a lot on my plate right now.

Tripp: She does.

Sami: Yeah, I understand. And maybe it’s for the best, right? I’ll be the one to tell ej about my ordeal. Oh, poor man.

Lucas: Poor man?

Sami: He’s gonna be in for such a shock.

Lucas: Man, you gotta be be kidding me, poor man. You are gonna go crawling back to that bum? Are you serious?

I’ve lost count of how many asthma attacks I’ve had.

Lucas: You just got out of a horrible situation. Why would you put yourself right in the middle of another one?

Lucas: Honestly, I don’t see much difference, to tell you the truth.

Sami: [Scoffs] Okay. Look, lucas, you saved me. You have no idea how happy I was to see you, but you are being ridiculous.

Lucas: Why don’t you just take a break from ej, go to the hospital, have ’em check you out, see if you can get a clean bill of health? Do that.

Sami: I feel fine. And dr. Johnson here already checked me out. He said I’m fine.

Lucas: He’s not a real doctor.

Allie: Yet.

Tripp: I would have to say that I didn’t see any obvious signs of damage to your health.

Sami: See?

Lucas: Will you stop? Dude, work with me a little bit, please.

Tripp: But I meant it when I said that you should get a complete checkup.

Sami: Are you serious right now? You’re using your daughter’s boyfriend to further your agenda? Do you realize that’s a little pathetic?

Lucas: You know what? The only agenda I have right now is to make sure you’re okay, that you get plenty of rest, and you get a bite to eat and maybe–

Sami: Okay, okay. Stop. I’m fine. Thank you for everything. But I am gonna go see my husband, get my marriage back.

[Dramatic music]

Nicole: Do you remember the first time we made love?

Ej: Hmm, it was during a blackout, and we were stuck in an elevator at the salem inn.

Ej: I’ll say.

Nicole: [Laughs] Uh-huh. I meant the heat wave and the ac being out.

[Both laugh]

Ej: But you have to admit that lovemaking was also pretty steamy.

Nicole: Yes, it was.

Ej: And now here we are in each other’s arms again after all these years. Would you say it’s still as good as you remember?

Nicole: It’s different somehow.

Ej: Different bad or different good?

Nicole: Different good.

Ej: Mm. Then I guess the question is, was it good enough to make you forget about rafe?

[Both laugh]

Ava: So… you ran into nicole?

Rafe: Mm-hmm. I was leaving the dimera house, and then she showed up to have dinner with ej.

Ava: Mind telling me what you two talked about?

Rafe: Just hear me out. I understand. I know that you want to put what happened behind us. I do, and there’s nothing more that I would want than to give you what you want. I’m trying so damn hard to put it out of my mind. I just– I don’t know if I can right now. Or maybe…even ever. Just gave her an update on kristen.

Ava: Why?

Rafe: Why? Because last time kristen was here, she held nicole and holly hostage and impersonated her. And so I was just reassuring her that it wasn’t gonna happen again.

Ava: Okay, I see. Of course.

Rafe: And then ej, he showed up, so I started grilling him about what he knew.

Ava: And what did he have to say?

Rafe: He just said he was keeping his distance from kristen, and I don’t believe him. I mean, I know that those two are close; I think he’s lying through his teeth.

Belle: Philip’s dna report is already in the hospital database.

Shawn: How do you know that?

Belle: Oh, please. He’s had more than his fair share of paternity tests.

Shawn: Oh, you’re right.

Belle: Mm.

Shawn: And forensics already sent over the dna report of the blood on the knife.

Belle: So you just need to call and see if it’s a match.

Shawn: Exactly what I was thinking. Thank you.

Belle: [Sighs] Brady, what have you done?

Chloe: Shawn is now treating this as a homicide.

Brady: [Sighs] Oh, god.

Chloe: But it’s shawn. He’ll keep an open mind.

Brady: Chloe, it’s no secret that philip and I have been at each other’s throats lately.

Chloe: Well, there’s something else I didn’t tell you.

Brady: Might as well just tell me–what?

Chloe: Well, when I was with you and you finally came to, you looked at me and you said, “screw philip. He doesn’t deserve you.”

Brady: I’ve been saying stuff like that for weeks. Doesn’t mean that it entered my mind to stab him.

[Sighs] Chloe, I wouldn’t hurt him. He’s family. Serena: It’s my 3:10

Brady: Chloe, listen to me. Listen to me. Look at me. I swear on my kids’ lives, I did not attack philip. I would’ve remembered if I did.

Chloe: It’s just shawn’s theory for now.

Brady: I don’t give a damn what shawn thinks. I care about what you think. It’s important to me. Do you think I did something to philip?

[Dramatic music]

Belle: Well?

Shawn: Well, you were right. Philip’s dna report was available. All they had to do was compare the two, and… it’s a match. It’s philip’s blood on that knife.

Allie: Oh, you’re a hero.

Lucas: Yeah, right. Get outta here

Allie: You are. You brought mom home.

Lucas: Yeah, well, if I had known she was gonna go back to ej, maybe I would’ve left her there.

Allie: Dad.

Lucas: What? Just kidding. I mean, sort of.

Nicole: Hmm. Is sex with you good enough for me to forget about rafe? Huh, I am gonna have to mull that over.

[Both laugh]

Ej: Oh, that’s not what I was hoping for.

Ej: You’ve put in a long day. Why don’t you stop by my place for a quick bite? I’ll have cook whip up all your favorites.

Nicole: Sold, I’m starving.

Ej: Wonderful. See you soon.

Ava: Ej, if you’re here to see rafe, he’s not home.

Ej: Actually, ava, I’m here to see you.

Tri: Allie.

Allie: Tripp, thank god you’re finally here.

Tripp: Sorry, they just let me observe open-heart surgery. So what’s going on?

Allie: It’s my mom. She’s been kidnapped.

Jason: What the– you bitch! Oh, my head’s killing me.

Sami: Sorry about that, I had to hit you pretty hard with that tray. I took your phone, too.

Jason: You better untie me right now, all right?

Sami: No, I don’t think I’m gonna do that.

Jason: Listen, my shift is about to end and the other guard, pete, will lose his mind if he sees me like this. He will go tell the boss and then after that–

Sami: I’m not scared of pete. I’m not scared of you, and I’m not scared of your boss, whoever he is.

Jason: Or she.

Sami: You’re saying your boss is a woman?

Jason: I’m saying don’t assume. That makes an ass out of you and me, all right?

Sami: You are hilarious. Jason, when you get out of prison for holding me hostage, you should definitely go into standup comedy.

Sami: Because–because the stupid key broke in the stupid lock, okay? So now the door doesn’t open. Yes, I took your keys, too. Sorry about that.

Jason: Well, if the lock’s busted you’re not going anywhere.

Sami: Lucas will find a way to open the door from the outside.

Jason: Lucas? Who’s lucas?

Sami: Oh, did I forget to mention that part? I managed to reach my ex-husband. Lucas is on his way here to rescue me any minute.

Ava: What possible reason would you have to come see me?

Ej: Oh, I thought you might need an attorney.

Ava: An attorney?

Ej: Well, I have represented you in the past.

Ava: True, but why would I need you now?

Ej: Because you helped my sister escape.

Rafe: Can I come in? I need to ask you a few questions.

Chad: Yeah.

Rafe: Thank you.

Chad: Questions about what?

Rafe: Kristen. She was supposed to be transferred to statesville today. Never made it.

Abigail: Yeah, we heard. It’s all over the news. So the van she was in crashed?

Rafe: Apparently, she forced it off the road.

Chad: Is she okay?

Rafe: Okay enough to have gotten away.

Abigail: And she’s still not been caught?

Rafe: Well, we’re throwing every available resource at it, but no, not yet.

Abigail: Okay, so this is a woman who has escaped prison twice and has managed to yet do it again. I mean, how does that happen?

Rafe: Yeah. Can I talk to you alone for a minute?

Chad: Me and my wife don’t keep secrets. Anything you have to ask me, you can ask in front of abigail.

Rafe: Okay. You were at the police station earlier, correct?

Chad: Yeah, I saw you there.

Rafe: Yeah, I saw you too. You sure spent a lot of time alone with kristen in the interrogation room. What were you talking about?

Chad: [Chuckles] Um, I–I gave her an update from her lawyer and I told her that despite his best efforts, she was going back to prison.

Rafe: Mm-hmm, yeah, and yet she didn’t go back to prison.

Chad: Where are you going with this, rafe?

Rafe: Well, the thing is we know that kristen couldn’t have pulled this off on her own. She had to have had an accomplice.

Chad: Are you accusing me of helping my sister escape?

Ava: I have no idea what you’re talking about.

Ej: Oh, I think you do. You helped my sister escape.

Ava: How would you know what’s going on with kristen? I read you refused to represent her to protect your image.

Ej: While I’m in no position to help kristen publicly, I have been watching her very closely. I’ve made it a point to have eyes and ears everywhere.

Ava: Really?

Ej: Hmm. I know you used your family connections to intimidate the guards who were escorting her to statesville. You scared them into letting her go.

Ava: Hm. For your information, I’ve left that life behind. And I find it incredibly insulting that you would assume just because my last name is vitali–

Ej: Oh, you can act outraged. You can feign innocence. You can carry on as much as you like, but I know what you did.

Ava: So what you gonna do about it, counselor? Hmm? You gonna turn me in?

Ej: [Laughs] Hm.

Tripp: Your mom was kidnapped? From where?

Allie: Salem.

Tripp: I thought she left town months ago.

Allie: She did, but not by her own choice. I mean, someone took her against her will.

Tripp: Okay, wait, I’m confused. Didn’t she send you a text saying that she just needed some time to be alone to figure things out?

Allie: Yeah, but that wasn’t her. That was her kidnapper.

Tripp: Allie, how do you know all this?

Allie: ‘Cause earlier today my mom finally got her hands on a phone and she called me and I was with my dad at the time. She told us that she’s been locked in this tiny room for months.

Tripp: Oh, my god. Did she say who took her?

Allie: No, she has no idea who did it or why. I don’t know. The only people she’s interacted with are the guards, so I guess she knocked one out and took his phone.

Tripp: Where’s she being held?

Allie: She didn’t know, but we use the map feature on the phone, and turns out she’s in some remote part of wisconsin.

Tripp: Okay, did–did anyone call the police?

Allie: No, but my dad went and got her so I’m sure he will if he needs to.

Tripp: Okay, have you heard from him?

Allie: No, and I’ve called a bunch of times, but he’s not picking up.

Tripp: Well, he’s probably driving.

Allie: It’s been hours. I’m freaking out. I mean, he should be there by now.

Jason: Your ex should’ve been here by now. Maybe he got lost.

Sami: I sent him my location.

Jason: If you don’t know where this place is exactly at, it’s impossible to find, all right?

Sami: Okay, you know what? Then let’s call him then we can give him exact directions. How about that? That’s a good idea. Damn it, there’s no signal.

Jason: It doesn’t matter. I’m telling you he’s not coming. He probably got frustrated doing circles out there and then bailed out.

Sami: Lucas would never do that.

Jason: How long ago did you talk to him?

Sami: I don’t know, a few hours ago. Maybe four or five hours.

Jason: And he’s coming from salem, right?

Sami: What’s your point?

Jason: It doesn’t take that long to get here. Even if he did make it, he didn’t make it to you. Pete probably saw him sniffing around and knocked him out. Might have killed him for all we know.

Sami: Please, you’re just trying to scare me.

Jason: Sami, sami, I’m serious. You need to listen to me. You need to untie me, all right? Pete’s gonna walk through that door any minute and once he does, I won’t be able to help you.

Sami: Shh.

Jason: He’s gonna see what you did–

Sami: Shh, shut up.

Jason: And then he’s gonna go straight to the boss.

Sami: I said shut up. I think I hear something.

Jason: That’s pete.

Sami: Shut up.

Jason: You’re gonna be sorry you didn’t cooperate when you had a chance. I’m telling you.

Lucas: Sami!

Sami: Lucas! Oh, lucas! I’m so glad you’re here. Serena: It’s my 3:10

Kate: And roman, try to talk rex into staying in salem. Please. Okay, see you soon. Hey, what are you doing here? You okay?

Paulina: Not really. I was visiting john black, and i ran into abraham. It did not go as well as I had hoped.

Kate: Yeah, well, I assume that he’s still angry with you for what happened at the wedding.

Paulina: Not angry so much or not anymore. Actually, he told me that he could forgive me for what I did and for holding the truth from him about lani, but he doesn’t think that he’ll ever be able to trust me again.

Kate: Well, I can’t blame him, I don’t think I would trust you, either.

Rafe: I’m not accusing you of anything. I’m just wondering if maybe kristen said something to you that would indicate she was planning to escape.

Chad: No, the opposite.

Rafe: Meaning what?

Chad: You don’t think it crossed my mind that she might be thinking about running again?

Rafe: You tell me.

Chad: Yes, it did. In fact, I asked her to assure me that she wouldn’T.

Rafe: And?

Chad: And she said she wasn’t going to. She said that she was gonna work on her appeal from statesville.

Rafe: Okay. Anything else happen?

Chad: She asked me to get her a sandwich from the cafeteria at the station. And while I was gone, she took my phone out of my coat pocket. When I came back she was deleting the call log.

Rafe: Any idea who she called?

Chad: Brady. She said she wanted to talk to rachel. She was desperate to talk to rachel and she thought that he would answer if she called from my phone. And when he he heard her voice, he hung up.

Rafe: But if she were calling brady, why would she delete the call log?

Chad: It’s a good question.

Rafe: And whose idea was it to get the sandwich at the station cafeteria, as opposed to the bistro or the pub, somewhere you might need your jacket?

Chad: It was kristen’S.

Rafe: Yeah. She wasn’t hungry. She just needed to get rid of you so she could use your phone to call her accomplice.

Ava: So what you gonna do, huh? You gonna rat me out to the cops?

Ej: Is that an admission of guilt?

Ava: I’m just curious to know what you’re planning to do with this absurd theory that I helped kristen escape.

Ej: It’s not a theory, it’s a fact. But not to worry, I have no intention of telling rafe.

Ava: ‘Cause he’d laugh in your face.

Ej: [Laughs] Not likely.

Ava: So then what’s the reason?

Ej: Well, first of all, kristen is my sister. She has her faults but I still love her.

Ava: Yeah, just not enough to risk bad pr.

Ej: When you run a multi-billion-dollar corporation as opposed to, say, an organization of murderous thugs, yes, image matters. But don’t think for one moment because I value my company that had don’t also value my family.

Ava: Yeah, just not enough to help her out when she needed you most.

Ej: I did, I hired a top-notch lawyer for her. Unfortunately, due to her track record, even he couldn’t convince the judge to keep her out of prison. And going back there is simply not an option.

Ava: Why, ’cause she’s a dimera?

Ej: Because she wouldn’t survive. She’d wither and die if she had to go back to statesville therefore, I will do everything in my power to keep her out.

Ava: So you’re doing this to save her life?

Ej: That and I owe her.

Ava: For what?

Ej: In a way, she also saved my life, or at least saved me from living the life of a clueless cuckold.

Ava: Oh. [Laughs] This is about sami.

Ej: Kristen’s the one who told me that samantha was cheating on me with her ex-husband. Had she not, I would’ve continued believing samantha’s lies forever. Instead, I’m now rid of that duplicitous whore once and for all.

Ava: You really happy about that?

Ej: Why wouldn’t I be? As far as I’m concerned, lucas can have her, wherever she is.

Sami: Lucas, I’ve never been so happy to see someone in my entire life.

Lucas: Are you okay? Did they hurt you?

Sami: No, I’m–I’m fine. I was just worried you weren’t gonna be able to find me.

Lucas: Sorry, this place is just in the middle of nowhere. It took me a while.

Sami: It doesn’t matter, you’re here now. That’s all that matters.

Lucas: Is this the sob who kidnapped you?

Sami: He’s just one of the guards. His name is jason. I took his phone from him after I hit him on the head. Hey, so I thought you said your shift was up. Where’s pete, huh?

Lucas: Who’s pete?

Sami: One of the other guards. But jason was telling me that pete was gonna find you outside and kill you.

Lucas: What?

Sami: Yeah, what happened to that, huh? He told me that I better untie him before pete got here because then the two of them would have been really mad and they would tell their boss who apparently is super scary.

Lucas: Yeah, apparently.

Sami: I don’t know. Lucas, I have no idea who did this to me. I have no idea whatsoever.

Lucas: All right, all right. You think it’s funny?

Jason: Hmm.

Lucas: Who do you work for?

Sami: I’ve asked him that question every day for three months.

Lucas: Yeah, I just asked you the same question, jackass. Who do you work for?

Sami: He wouldn’t tell me anything.

Lucas: Yeah? Well, he sure as hell is gonna tell me. This is the sound of nature breathing.

Lucas: Answer me, answer me. Who is behind this? Who would kidnap sami, bring her in the middle of nowhere? What do they want with her?

Sami: Don’t bother, lucas. He’s not gonna tell us anything.

Lucas: You’re going down for this, you know that?

Jason: We’ll see.

Lucas: We’ll see? Really? Two eyewitnesses, multiple felonies. This is an airtight case, man.

Jason: I’ll get a good lawyer.

Sami: I know you think you’re doing the right thing by being loyal to your boss or whatever, but this’ll go so much better for you if you just cooperate with us.

Lucas: Yeah, you got no skin in this game. You’re just taking orders, right? You really wanna go to jail for something you don’t care about?

Sami: Jason, don’t throw your life away.

Lucas: Your boss needs to pay for this and we can make that happen. We can protect you, too.

Jason: You really think I’m stupid, huh? I talk, you turn on me. Both of you would turn me right over to the cops.

Sami: No, no, we won’T. I swear to you. If you help me I won’t press charges. I’ll help you get immunity. Just tell us who you’re working for, please.

Ej: Samantha is gone and I have my sister to thank.

Ava: I believe you’re grateful to her. Still doesn’t explain why you’re not reporting me to rafe.

Ej: I’ll put it this way. If I were to expose your collaboration with kristen, the commissioner would dump you so fast your head would spin.

Ava: And you care about that because?

Ej: Because the minute rafe hernandez found himself unattached, he’d make a beeline to nicole and I’m not going to let that happen.

Rafe: I think we could get the answers we need from your phone.

Chad: I already told you, kristen deleted the call log.

Rafe: Yeah, but I’m pretty sure my it guys can retrieve them. If I need to get a court order–

Chad: Why would you– no, you don’t have to get a court order. Here. The one person I need to talk to is right here.

Rafe: Okay, well, thank you for your cooperation.

Chad: Oh, hey, for what it’s worth, I’m not protecting kristen. She’s my sister and I love her, but she hurt a lot of people I care about.

Rafe: All right. I’ll be in touch. Have a great night.

Nicole: Oh, um–

cough cough sneeze sneeze…

Kate: Okay, that was harsh. Sorry.

Paulina: It sure as hell was. But–well, maybe you’ve never lied to keep from from hurting someone or– or because you were afraid to lose them.

Kate: Touché.

Paulina: Well, it’s– it’s everything I feared. It’s all coming to pass. I’ve lost abe. Lani, too. My own daughter, she wants nothing to do with me.

Kate: Maybe that’s not surprising. She just found out that you gave her away, that you’ve kept the truth from her for so long. Paulina, why did– why did you make that decision? Why did you give up your daughter?

Nicole: Um–what are you doing here?

Rafe: I was just following up on kristen’s disappearance.

Nicole: Oh, any luck?

Rafe: Not yet.

Nicole: Well, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit of this family circles the wagon to protect her. But you know what? It won’t last long ’cause eventually the dimera’s luck always runs out even for stefano. Hey, so can you tell me anything?

Rafe: Just working overtime to track her down.

Nicole: Well, I hope you do. And I hope she burns in hell and I hope the person who helped her does too.

Rafe: So you are convinced as I am that she had an accomplice.

Nicole: Yeah, of course, she did, and that person, that cold-blooded heartless person who helped aid and abet that psychotic bitch, I hope you find them and nail them to the wall.

Ava: Rafe and nicole are just friends.

Ej: Only because he’s dating you. But if that were to change.

Ava: What? You think you’d go running to her? Give me a break.

Ej: You’re denying there’s an attraction between them?

Ava: I mean, there may have been one briefly, but rafe and I talked about it. He assured me that it’s all in the past. So why are you bringing it up?

Ej: I’m sorry. Okay, I just don’t understand. I thought you resolved to stay away from him?

Nicole: I had. But I-I was at the office working that night. It’s really creepy being in the basic black building by myself and on halloween and I, uh, I– I thought I saw deimos kiriakis.

Ej: What?

Nicole: I mean it. I thought I saw him.

Ej: He’s dead.

Nicole: And so are you. Yet here you are with ice cream. Look I–I called rafe and–and he came over and he calmed me down and he was really sweet. And we– we had sex on the conference table.

Allie: This whole thing is just so bizarre. I mean they grabbed mom, keep her hold up someplace in wisconsin, but they make no demands and they send fake texts so we’d think she’s okay. I mean I don’t know anyone who would do that.

Tripp: I mean I have one idea but it’s–it’s pretty out there.

Allie: Tell me.

Sami: Clock’s ticking, jason, what’s it gonna be?

Lucas: All right your call. Just take him to the local police department and turn him in. I’ll untie the back, you get his legs. When we untie him, you grab one arm and you grab the other, okay?

Kate: Never mind. You don’t have to answer that. It’s really none of my business.

Paulina: You’re right, it isn’T. But I’m gonna answer it anyway. I gave up my beautiful firstborn to my sister because she wasn’t conceived in love. Her biological father, he was a controlling, an abusive man–an addict. I was scared to death of him. You don’t know what it feels like to be with a man like that.

Kate: I do know what it feels like. I know exactly what it feels like, paulina.

Paulina: You know what it feels like to be with a controlling abusive man?

Kate: I was married to one.

Allie: You think my grandma marlena kidnapped my mom?

Tripp: She kidnapped her husband and held him prisoner. It’s really that far-fetched to think she’d take her daughter, too?

Allie: Okay, that wasn’t her fault. She was possessed by the devil.

Tripp: Exactly, so maybe your mom knew that and was going to expose him.

Allie: Wait a minute.

Tripp: What?

Allie: I thought you didn’t believe in demonic possession.

Sami: Where’s jason?

Lucas: He got away.

Sami: Damn it.

Lucas: Listen, I’m sorry. You’re more important to me. I had to come back for you to make sure you’re okay. We gotta get you out of here.

Sami: Yeah.

Lucas: Is your head okay?

Sami: Yeah.

Lucas: Are you dizzy?

Sami: No.

Lucas: Are you bleeding? Or anything?

Sami: I’m fine. I’m fine. Let’s just go before that boss shows up and comes looking for us.

Lucas: We’re gonna go to the local police station and tell them everything that happened to you. Come on.

Sami: No, lucas.

Lucas: What do you mean no? Don’t you want these guys to pay for what they did you?

Sami: Yes, of course I do but not right now, okay? We’ll call the police. We’ll do all of that, but first, it’s just, I just want to go home first, please.

Lucas: All right, home it is. Come on.

Abigail: I can’t stop trying to figure out who kristen called. After everything she’s done. It’s hard to believe anyone would help her.

Chad: Except ej. I mean just ’cause he did seem preoccupied at the meeting maybe it’s just–maybe it’s just his way of not giving anything away, right?

Abigail: Yeah, sure, but why would he help her? He wasn’t even willing to represent her?

Chad: I mean ’cause he didn’t want the bad press. He wanted to maintain his shiny image and dimera’s and–and you know behind the scenes maybe he was cooking up some secret plan to help kristen escape. And I’m the one getting grilled by police.

Abigail: It sucks.

Chad: Yeah. Ej is a total snake.

Ava: I’m not interested in playing games. So if you got some reason to believe that rafe and nicole have something going on, spit it out.

Ej: It’s all over with rafe? You’re sure?

Nicole: I’m sure. He is with ava, and she is my friend. And she can’t know what happened. So you need to keep your trap shut.

Ej: You’re a smart woman. I think you know the attraction between rafe and nicole is definitely not all in the past.

Ava: Well, that’s what rafe told me.

Ej: Hm. But what do your eyes tell you? When you’re around them do you see two people who just want to be friends? Or does the fact they work so damn hard to prove they don’t want each other that it’s just that much more obvious that they do? What’s also obvious is that neither of us want them to get together.

Ava: I know I don’T. What’s your excuse?

Rafe: So now you know why I’m here. What are you doing here?

Nicole: Well, ej invited me to dinner.

Rafe: Kinda late, no?

Nicole: Well, I was still at work when he called. So just the spur of the moment invitation.

Rafe: Right. So you two are still seeing each other?

Nicole: Uh, obviously.

Rafe: Yeah, right. Getting serious?

Nicole: Well, I mean, we haven’t you know, I mean, there’s–there’s no big commitment but it’s–it’s definitely going in that direction.

Rafe: Definitely.

Nicole: Why are you grilling me about this?

Rafe: I’m not. No.

Nicole: No, yes. You kinda are you. Look, rafe, the point is things are good with ej and they’re getting better and you know, quite frankly, you know, I hope that things move forward because then there won’t be any more–

Rafe: Any more what?

Nicole: Confusion.

Rafe: Confusion about what?

Nicole: You and me. I just figured that if now I’m in a committed relationship with ej, then we can finally put what happened in my office behind us once and for all.

Rafe: I’m not sure I can do that. My nunormal?

Tripp: Yeah, what happened on halloween, you know, kinda changed my outlook on certain phenomena.

Allie: Yeah, seeing a person arise from the day can have that effect.

Tripp: Still not entirely sure we saw charlie but enough people, smart people that I respect swear that the devil made marlena do what she did so.

Allie: So you’re not a skeptic anymore.

Tripp: Well, as a man of science, I will always be a skeptic, but I do believe that some things might defy scientific explanation.

Allie: Hmm, I’m impressed the doctor could be so open-minded.

Tripp: Well, am not a doctor yet.

Allie: Well, I’m impressed that top med student can be so open-minded. But the truth is there’s no way that my grandma could have kidnapped my mom.

Tripp: What makes you so sure?

Allie: Timing. The whole possession thing didn’t start until her appointment with doug. And that was way after my mom disappeared.

Tripp: There goes my theory. So if it wasn’t the devil then who was it?

Ej: I know you’re aware nicole and i are seeing each other. We ran into you that night at julie’s place when you were there with rafe. I gave you that–

Ava: The expensive bottle of wine. Yes, I remember and I’m also aware that you are dating nicole.

Ej: I’ve known her for a very long time. I didn’t think there was any way that she could still surprise me and yet she has. And each time it’s even more gratifying.

Ava: You know, I really don’t need to hear this.

Ej: What I mean is that she’s been helping me move on after what happened with samantha. We’re also building something, something real, and I would like that to continue. And I assume for god knows what reason you feel the same about rafe.

Ava: I am in love with him.

Ej: Hmm, but if he found out what you did, he would throw you over instantly for the woman I want a future with. Clearly, it’s in both our best interests to keep him in the dark. So we’ll keep this collaboration between you and my sister to ourselves.

Ava: What collaboration?

Ej: Exactly.

Ava: So if you had no intention of ever saying anything. Why’d you come all the way over here?

Ej: Oh, I just wanted you to know that nothing happens in this town without my knowing. Something to be aware of. Have a good night.

Nicole: Rafe, we talked about this. You–you know how I feel.

Rafe: I know–I know you–you want me to act like what we did in your office never happened. I’m trying, okay? I’m really trying, you know, to– you know, ava and I, we work things out. So yeah, we’re back together.

Nicole: I’m glad to hear it.

Rafe: Nicole.

Nicole: Please don’t say anything else, please.

Rafe: I’m trying to respect your wishes, okay, but just– I’m not gonna pretend that it’s easy, okay? Just like making love to you is not a mistake. It felt–it felt so right.

Nicole: Rafe, please stop.

Rafe: I’m not gonna say anything, okay? I’m not gonna say anything to ej or ava or anyone, okay? It’s just– all right, listen when–when I think about being with you, holding you, touching you, I’m just, I’m gonna–I’m gonna put it out of my mind, okay?

Rafe: I know.

Nicole: We need to forget about what happened and move on.

Paulina: So this– this curtis reed guy, he– he beat you up and left you on the side of the road?

Kate: While I was pregnant because the baby I was carrying wasn’t his.

Paulina: And that–that baby that’s your son, lucas?

Kate: Yes, lucas. My son lucas. But you know he’s had his–he’s had his struggles. He has a good and he has a kind heart just like your daughter, lani. You know abe would tell anyone who would listen what an extraordinary young woman she is.

Paulina: She is that. Oh, how I wish she wasn’t ray’S. But she is–she is his. Way back when I was pregnant with her, I thought that if he knew that I was having his child, he’d never let me go, or worse that he would take her away from me.

Kate: Yes. Yes. That is exactly what curtis– that’s what he did to me. And not with lucas, with my–with my other kids, with austin and billie. He took them–he took them and he took ’em in the cruelest way. I didn’t see them again until they were adults.

Paulina: Well, kate, kate I’m so sorry.

Kate: No, I’m sorry. I’m sorry, I should never have judged you before I had the facts. Anyway, I have a meeting. I need to go. I’m so glad we talked. I wish you luck.

Paulina: Thank you. I’m gonna–I’m gonna need it.

Abigail: I have an idea. Let’s not spend any more time talking about ej.

Chad: I am totally on board with that. Harold, what’s up? Abby and I are gonna be taking dinner in our room tonight. Perfect. Thank you. Dinner will arrive whenever we’re ready. So I think– I think I’d like to spend our time… doing that. And this. And this.

[Sighs] Rafe, you sent this a long time ago.

Rafe: Just hear me out. Listen, I understand I know that you want to put what happened behind us, I do. And there’s nothing more that I would want than to give what you want. I’m trying so damn hard to put it out of my mind and it’s just I don’t know if I can right now or maybe even ever.

Kate: Well, I mean I can’t really speak for the whole relationship, but as for tonight, I think it’s one for the books.

Roman: I am glad to hear that.

Kate: Really? How glad?

Roman: Very glad. Very glad.

Rex: Well, aren’t you two just full of surprises?

Gwen: Xander?

[Sighs] Okay, rizczech. That’s good. It’s good. You–you have a minute to pull yourself together. Oh, god. Please tell me they restocked that bloody fridge. Yes.

[Sighs]

[Exhales shakily] Okay. Focus, gwen. You just helped a convicted felon and absolute, complete sociopath just escape from a prison van.

[Exhales shakily] But it wasn’t your fault. You didn’t have a choice, because if xander found out that his beloved sarah wasn’t healing the sick and she wasn’t having a romp with her ex, well, he would’ve– he would’ve dumped you in a minute to go island-hopping to go and find her. Kristen is the only one who knew about that, and now she’s gone. So that means that there is no way that xander will find out.

Kate: Oh!

Rex: Mom, fabulous as ever.

Kate: Thank you. You look great.

Rex: Thank you. Dude, you pulled out all of the stops here.

Roman: Rex, it’s so good to see you.

Rex: No, I’m serious. You have champagne, and roses, and what is this? What do you got going on here? Is this crme brlée? What, no gypsy violinist?

Roman: They were booked, but I did miss your subtle wit and your wry observations.

Rex: Well, I missed you guys too, and, hey, I really am sorry to barge in like this. I saw the sign out front. I thought a private party was going on, like a knights of columbus-type thing. I had no idea that you were running a full-court press in here.

Kate: Okay. Just leave him alone, okay? He has the heart of a poet and a romantic, unlike you.

Rex: No, no. I–

Kate: Don’t mock him.

Rex: I am seriously, genuinely impressed. And happy. I mean, after all these years, you finally won her back.

Gabi: What else do we have to offer, jake?

Jake: Well, there’s always gabi chic.

Gabi: Oh, right. Gabi chic.

Victor: You offer me your fashion brand in return for my whole company?

Gabi: Scoff all you want, but you know, when I was working for you, it was the most profitable asset that titan had. And why else would philip want to blackmail me out of it?

Jake: You know she’s right.

Gabi: Any conglomerate would be lucky to have my brand under its umbrella. It’s fresh, forward-thinking, everything that titan industries hasn’t been for a very long time. If you make us your ceos, gabi chic is yours. And everything I have done for that brand, I will do for titan. Victor, what are you saying? Are we in?

[Elevator chimes]

Shawn: Hey.

Chloe: Hey.

Shawn: How’s brady doing?

Chloe: Kayla’s with him right now, but I think he’s gonna be fine.

Shawn: Okay. I’m glad to hear that. Do you mind if I talk to you?

Chloe: You want to talk to me or ask me questions?

Shawn: Oh, well, maybe it’s a little bit of both. So john called. He called me, asking if we found marlena.

Chloe: Have you?

Shawn: No, no, no. Not yet. Anyway, so he was worried. He was worried because brady was here at the hospital with him, and he left. He left to go get takeout.

Chloe: And then he didn’t come back.

Shawn: Right, right. And he wasn’t answering any of john’s calls. And then, we got the call that he was on his way here in an ambulance, so I went out to check out the crime scene. And, hey, I’m gonna show you something, okay? It might be, you know, a little disturbing.

Chloe: Okay.

Shawn: All right, so I went to the riverbank where you found brady, and I found this. It’s a knife. Marlena, or whatever it is that’s taken over her’s weapon of choice. I think that john is onto something, and I think that marlena might be relate to it all.

Chloe: I’m sorry, shawn. No, I don’t think she has anything to do with this.

Gabi: So we bring gabi chic back to titan, and it will once again be your most profitable division.

Jake: And, in turn, you make us both co-ceos.

Victor: Sounds very tempting. Lots of positives there.

Gabi: Absolutely.

Victor: And only a few negatives that I can think of.

Jake: And what are they? We’ll take care of ’em.

Victor: Well, I think that you’re both idiots.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are “the days of our lives.”

[Soft orchestration]

Rex: Well, look, I am really sorry for being so out of touch. Things over there were just really intense.

Roman: Yeah, I know. Been reading about it.

Rex: Now that I’m home, I don’t want to talk about me. So what’s happening here? How long has this been going on?

Roman: Not long. But by the way, you’re the only one who knows this, so keep it to yourself, okay?

Rex: Are you, like, embarrassed or something?

Roman: No. Not at all.

Kate: Oh, no. No, we’re not hiding it. We just don’t really want to announce it until christmas.

Rex: Well, like me, I’m sure everyone’s gonna be so happy for you, especially since the fiasco with–

[Laughter]

Kate: Really? Because you can say his name. You mean when jake dumped me for gabi?

Rex: Whoa, whoa, whoa. He dumped you?

Roman: Yeah, yeah. It’s kind of like barney fife dumping nicole kidman.

Rex: Yeah, it’s a weird simile. It’s accurate, but weird.

Kate: Oh, it’s so nice to have my guys on my side.

Rex: Well, mom, let me be the first to say that you have traded up with dad here, and he deserves gabi. Think about it. Every guy that’s ever hooked up with her, it hasn’t ended so well for them.

Gabi: You know the gabi chic numbers. They’re through the roof. I don’t think an idiot could do that.

Victor: How long have you two been here groveling? Seems like it’s been days.

Gabi: We’re not groveling.

Victor: So if you’ve been paying any attention at all, you know how I feel about you. And you offer me gabi chic. That’s the big plum. Only an idiot would offer victor kiriakis chump change like that.

Jake: What about dimera enterprises?

Abigail: Is it okay to talk to you now?

Chad: I think so.

Abigail: Did you have a tough day at work?

Chad: Yeah, you could say that.

Abigail: Is that why you didn’t return any of my calls?

Chad: I’m sorry. I just–I was in back-to-back meetings all day, and when I finally got around to checking my phone, I had six messages from you.

Abigail: Seven, but who’s counting?

Chad: I just thought I’d come home and talk to you in person. Was it urgent?

Abigail: No, it’s not urgent. It’s just kind of a family matter.

Chad: Are the kids okay?

Abigail: It’s not our family. It’s yours.

Chad: How could it possibly be my family? My family’s either still at the office or in prison.

Abigail: I wouldn’t be so sure about that.

Chad: Kristen didn’T. Kristen–she couldn’t have.

Abigail: She escaped.

Chad: [Sighs] Well, that– that sure shakes your faith in the salem pd, don’t it?

[Door unlocks]

[Door opens]

Gwen: Oh, thank god. I was just about to go down to the police station.

Xander: What are you so worked up about?

Gwen: Well, you, of course. That bloody police commissioner, he just took you in. It was as if– it was as if he were sure that you were the one who helped kristen escape.

Xander: Yeah, he was sure, and he was wrong. If you’re with me, you’re gonna have to get used to seeing the cops haul me in. I’m all of their usual suspects rolled up into one guy.

Gwen: That’s not very fair, is it?

Xander: Well, life’s not fair. You just have to look at it their way. I mean, I was at kristen’s beck and call for a long time, and I was in the interrogation room right before they hauled her down to the van. Of course rafe thought I helped her. And come to think of it, I’m one of the few people left that would help kristen. I mean, she couldn’t have pulled this off by herself. She had to have help. And now, I mean everyone in the whole city hates her guts. Wonder who the hell did help her?

Shawn: But like I said, marlena or whoever she is now, she had a knife. John and susan, they both saw it.

Chloe: I don’t think that this has to do with marlena, or the devil, or whatever.

Shawn: Why not?

Chloe: Because I saw that knife on the ground next to brady.

Shawn: But you didn’t pick it up, did you?

Chloe: No. I didn’t touch it, but–

Shawn: Okay, good.

Chloe: Brady was just covered in all this blood, and I assumed it was his, but then kayla examined him, and–

Shawn: Wait, kayla– kayla examined him? What did she say?

Chloe: She said he doesn’t have any stab wounds. He just has a bump on his head. She also said that the blood doesn’t belong to him.

Shawn: Do you know whose it is?

Chloe: No, I don’T. But I think it could be philip’S. Why give your family just ordinary eggs

Victor: So you’re gonna offer dimera enterprises? That cinches the deal.

Jake: Well, you know we can’t just do that.

Victor: Why not? You do own it, don’t you? I mean you wouldn’t give me something that doesn’t belong to you. That’d be like saying, “well, let’s give him puerto rico or eternal life.” You know what they call people who can’t deliver? Idiots.

Jake: Okay. I may not own dimera, but I know how I can get it.

Victor: You don’t know squat. You couldn’t get the votes to keep it when you had it, and you’re sure as hell are not gonna pry it from ej dimera now that he’s in charge. No. He knows what he’s doing. Now, isn’t it time for you two to leave?

Chloe: I see the blood that was on brady was o positive.

Shawn: And you know philip’s blood type?

Chloe: Yeah. Remember that blood drive that I organized in high school? It was the one where mimi said, “ghoul girl’s gonna drink all the donations.”

Shawn: Oh, yeah, she’s always been such a fun gal.

Chloe: Yeah, well, philip stood up for me, and he was the first person to donate blood. And because, you know, all the kids in school wanted to do whatever philip did, it ended up being a great success, so yeah, I remember his blood type. O positive.

Shawn: Yeah, but o positive is the most common type, so what makes you think that the blood that was on brady belonged to philip?

Chloe: Well, I don’t know, but philip and I went down to the riverbank to check on our tree. We planted a new one there recently.

Shawn: Yeah, belle told me about that.

Chloe: Yeah, except when we got there, someone had ripped the tree out of the ground.

Shawn: Do you know who did it?

Chloe: No, but philip was pretty insistent that brady had done it, and he was furious about it.

Shawn: Yeah. Yeah, belle told me that the two of them are pretty intense right now.

Chloe: Yeah. It has to do with me. But I made it very clear that I’m with philip now. A lot of good that did.

Rex: A toast to you guys. I hope you have a hell of a lot of fun. God knows you deserve it.

Roman: I think we will have a lot of fun. I’ve been pricing rvs. I think your mom and i are gonna tour all the national and state parks.

Rex: There’s really good trout fishing out west.

Roman: Yeah, I’ll catch ’em. You gut and clean ’em while I build the fire.

Rex: [Laughs] You know, I’m gonna get you some waders as a going-away present.

Roman: Thank you.

Kate: Oh, my god. You guys are just hysterical. Really? Really? Because what I was thinking is hotel crillon. We can have a suite overlooking the place de concorde.

Rex: Oh, of course.

Kate: I mean, you two can go fishing in the seine, though, if you’d like, but sarah and I? We’re going shopping.

Rex: Sarah?

Kate: Oh, yeah; I mean, I assume she came back with you. Is she over visiting her mom?

Rex: I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Xander: You know what I was thinking? Like I said, one of the reasons hernandez drove me downtown in the first place was because I was in the interrogation room talking to kristen right before they took her down into the van.

Gwen: [Sighs] Well, that’s a flimsy reason, isn’t it?

Xander: I know, but that’s when you showed up too, right?

Gwen: Xander, I told you that’s because I saw your car outside. I thought that perhaps you were in trouble.

Xander: Hmm, it’s pretty suspicious timing, though. You could have been slipping kristen secret messages or a shiv in a tuna sandwich.

Gwen: Could we just stop talking about kristen dimera now, please?

Xander: Oh, sorry. I just thought it was funny. I mean, why would you help her? You don’t even know her, do you?

Gwen: No, of course not.

[Clears throat] You know what? Are you hungry? We can go to julie’s place for dinner maybe.

Xander: Eh, julie’s place. Maybe we shouldn’t go somewhere where we might be tempted to skip out on the check. Although, when I suggested that before, only I was tempted. You said we shouldn’t be committing any more crimes.

Gwen: And I meant it. What–what are you thinking?

Xander: Oh, I’m just wondering. Has the bad girl I fell for gone good?

Gwen: I thought you liked good girls.

Xander: Well, are we talking about you, or sarah?

Chad: I wonder how many people across salem see “the spectator” headline “kristen dimera escapes” and wonder if they’ve gone back in time?

Abigail: I feel bad for the reporter. It’s getting kinda hard to put a fresh spin on that.

Chad: You know what’s weird?

Abigail: [Chuckles] Everything about your family?

Chad: The last time I saw kristen, she–she actually seemed defeated, like she knew there wasn’t a way out. Or do you think she was conning me? You think there was some– already some kind of plan, or do you think that she just improvised this whole thing in the van?

Abigail: I think there had to have been some kind of a plan. I mean, I don’t see how she could have pulled it off alone. But then, after everything that she’s done, I don’t know who in their right mind would have been willing to help her.

(Upbeat music)

Chloe: So when I ran into brady at the pub, he said he was picking up takeout for his dad.

Shawn: Yeah, that’s what john told me.

Chloe: Yeah, and I figured he’d be going back to the hospital after that. And so, when philip said he thought brady pulled the tree out, I went to the hospital to ask him about it. And john said he never came back here with any food, so maybe philip was right?

Shawn: Okay, so when you saw brady, did he say anything about philip? Did he seem upset?

Chloe: He did talk about philip, but he didn’t seem angry. In fact, he was kind of gloating because victor had fired philip again. Oh, maybe that’s what he was celebrating.

Shawn: I’m sorry, “celebrating”?

Chloe: Yeah, I don’t know, but apparently kayla said that brady’s blood alcohol level was, like, three times the legal limit, so he must have ordered more than just clam chowder.

Shawn: And when you talked to brady, it was on his way into the pub, so did he seem sober then?

Chloe: Yeah. I mean, I guess he could have started drinking, but he did not seem drunk to me.

Shawn: And the next time you saw him–

Chloe: He was lying unconscious, covered in blood.

Shawn: Do you know where philip is?

Chloe: No. I have no idea.

Chad: It seems to me that ej would be the most likely person to have helped kristen escape.

Abigail: Well, he’s such a devoted brother.

Chad: Oh, yeah.

Abigail: Mm-hmm.

Chad: But ej was at the office all day, and he didn’t seem preoccupied or anything. He was focused on being an obstructionist ass, per usual.

Abigail: Well, our sources at the station house did tell us that xander cook was brought in for questioning, but then he was released.

Chad: Hmm, you know what? I don’t really actually care who helped her or why they did it. Honestly, I wish her well and I hope she learned her lesson and stays the hell away from salem.

Abigail: She’s gonna come back. She always comes back.

Chad: More importantly, how was your day? What about you? You know your lines here?

Abigail: Yeah, but I don’t know. It kind of seems like maybe it’s a waste of time. I mean, johnny’s in italy and there’s an apb out on marlena, so perhaps “possessed: The marlena evans story” is in turnaround.

Chad: Or development hell.

Abigail: [Snorts] Yeah. No pun intended, right?

Chad: Look, I’m sorry, baby. I know–I know how much you were looking forward to it.

Abigail: You disappointed I’m not gonna have love scenes with ej, huh?

Chad: No problem. I have plenty of reasons to hate ej’s guts.

Gabi: Victor, that’s titan’s stock at the closing bell. I think that number reflects the perception that titan is a corporate dinosaur run by a capricious old man who just fired yet another inept relative that he had installed as ceo. I’d say–I’d say that you have a sinking ship here, and also that insulting anybody that comes to you with a company that actually makes money is idiotic.

Jake: And I didn’t offer you puerto rico. I didn’t offer you eternal life. I offered you dimera enterprises because we can deliver. Now, ej may know what he’s doing, but he’s got the entire family at each other’s throats.

Gabi: House divided. Ready to collapse.

Jake: Right. Now, gabi and I still have enough shares to call a meeting, so how about this? Let’s put it on a timetable. If you’re not board member by such-and-such a date, no deal, but don’t just flat-out turn us down. Vic. Vic, don’t be an idiot.

Rex: Why would sarah be with me?

Kate: Honey, why wouldn’t she be? You left together.

Rex: No. No, we didn’T.

[Gasps] Okay, that’s one of the reasons why I didn’t call. I was kind of embarrassed. I was hoping maggie would tell you and then we could just pretend the whole thing never happened.

Roman: What never happened?

Rex: At the last possible second, before sarah and i were supposed to be leaving town together, she got cold feet. Said she didn’t want to be in a relationship with anyone and she needed to find herself.

Kate: [Groans] Well, I hope she finds herself in outer mongolia.

Rex: I thought you gave us your blessing?

Kate: I gave you my blessing because I couldn’t do anything about it, okay? But bless her self-absorption. I am just thrilled that you’re finally through with that ridiculous woman.

Rex: Could you please not talk about her that way?

Kate: What? What? Really? Seriously? I can’t be upset when she screws you over like that?

Roman: Yeah, and I don’t get it, all right? If she didn’t go with you, where in the hell did she go?

Rex: I have no idea.

Gwen: Sorry, I– I didn’t mean to bring up sarah.

Xander: Well, you just heard me talking to kristen about her and trying to work out why she left me, left town. I’d understand if you were a little jealous.

Gwen: Jealous? I’m not jealous. Just a bit protective, that’s all, ’cause I know how much she hurt you.

Xander: Hey, you were right when you said that sarah was my past. You’re my present, and hopefully, my future. I don’t give a damn why sarah left me for rex. That’s her loss.

Gwen: And my gain.

I didn’t have a choice, because if xander found out that his beloved sarah wasn’t healing the sick and she wasn’t having a romp with her ex, well, he would’ve– he would’ve dumped you in a minute to go island-hopping to go and find her. Hello?

Rex: I tried calling sarah a few times, but cell reception in myanmar is not reliable. I just figured if she wanted to find me, she would have.

Roman: Okay. Again, I don’t get it. This is strange, okay? It’s not just us, rex. I think all of salem believes you two were together.

Kate: I know xander does.

Rex: But sarah would have told xander, wouldn’t she?

Kate: No, I guess not. What a lovely, thoughtful woman you had in sarah.

Rex: Yeah, but it would be a lot easier on xander if he knew, wouldn’t it?

Kate: Well, apparently he’s moved on with jack devereaux’s long-lost daughter who’s quite a prize herself. She has daddy issues and is deeply neurotic about it and as amusing as a canker sore, actually.

Rex: Judging again. How unlike you.

Rex: Oh, what? No. I’m just saying it’s a match made in heaven.

Xander: [Sighs] Bistro’s full.

Gwen: Really? How about the pub then?

Xander: Whatever. I’m starving. Come on. Let’s go.

Gwen: Hang on. What’s this on your arm here?

Xander: [Sighs] When I was leaving the police station, some clumsy cop bumped into me with a pizza. I like this shirt, and it’s gonna stain.

Gwen: Dear. Oh, dear. Okay. Well, look. Why don’t you put it in the sink, and I’ll wash it when we get back, yeah?

Xander: Mmm. How domestic of you.

Gwen: You’d like that. Me being a happy, little homemaker. I’ll go get us a table.

Xander: Gwen?

Gwen: Hmm?

Xander: Look, I’m glad I talked to kristen. Don’t know what I was expecting to find out, but it’s like she closed a door on the past for me. I don’t care why sarah went with rex or where they went. You’re here. Sarah could be on the moon for all I care. I just wanted to tell you that.

Gwen: [Sighs]

Chad: So he waits until the entire board is in session–

Abigail: Oh, ej?

Chad: Right, and just when we’re about to wrap up–and mind you, I have been working on this deal for months– and then, out of the blue, ej starts demanding a slew of poison pill clauses.

Abigail: Without even talking to you about it?

Chad: I mean, the first time I heard of it was in front of the entire board and shin, who was obviously ej’s targeted audience.

Abigail: Ugh. Did you and ej fight?

Chad: No, because shin called in security to separate us to neutral corners before we could.

Abigail: Well, that seems like an overreaction.

Chad: Not really; I think it was pretty clear that if there wasn’t some sort of intervention, that I was gonna smash ej’s smug sneer right down his throat.

Victor: Is this where i tell you that you have spunk?

Gabi: No. This is where you tell us that you’ll at least think about it.

Jake: You know what, vic? You’re right. Ej? He’s very smart, very shrewd, but it’s also true that people loathe him. Chad. Tony. Hell, even his own son would jump at the opportunity to stab him in the back. Hell, I would.

Victor: It would be fun to watch stefano’s family self-destruct.

Gabi: Yes, yes, but you need to be thinking about titan. I mean, you’ve given all of your family members every opportunity to preserve titan’s legacy. It is time for new blood, especially now that you’ve given philip the axe.

Shawn: All right, so it is possible that brady went on his bender, he went to the tree, he had a confrontation with philip, and he stabbed him.

Chloe: I–I mean, I guess it could be possible, but shawn, I just don’t see brady doing that, even drunk. Why would he attack philip with a knife?

Shawn: I’m just trying to put together the facts here, all right? So you said you don’t know where philip is, okay, but I’m sure–I mean, you tried calling him, right?

Chloe: Yes, I did call him, and his phone rang in brady’s coat pocket.

Shawn: Okay. Well, here’s your missed call 30 minutes ago. I mean, the rest of these calls, they all look pretty ordinary, and…

Chloe: What is it?

Shawn: Well, earlier tonight, philip got a series of threatening texts, and they’re from brady.

Chloe: The texts? What do they say?

Shawn: Well, they keep getting more and more threatening, and I mean, this last one right here–this is the worst.

Chloe: Let me see. “Philip, you don’t deserve to be with chloe. If you don’t cut yourself out of her life, I’ll have no choice but to cut you out of it myself.”

Abigail: Now, I know I don’t have to tell you to be careful with ej.

Chad: I know better than to turn my back on him. I’d wind up with a knife in it.

Abigail: What happened with the deal you were trying to close?

Chad: I closed it.

Abigail: Mm-hmm. That’s good.

Chad: Yeah.

Abigail: So if he was trying to sabotage it, it didn’t work?

Chad: No, the deal was good for the company, and the company is ej’s religion. I don’t think he really wanted to sabotage it; he just wanted to make me look bad, unprepared. But despite headquarters being an absolute warzone, the company’s set to have the best year yet. And titan took a big hit when victor fired philip, so now the only threat to dimera is whether or not I can work with ej without killing him.

Jake: We have the advantage. Chad. Ej. They won’t even see this coming.

Gabi: And you don’t have to risk anything. All you have to do is sit back and watch us make it happen for you.

Victor: However, this is all talk. You put things in place to give me a seat on the dimera board of directors, and we’ll finish this conversation.

Gabi: We will do that. And before you know it, the three of us are gonna be running titan and dimera enterprises. Come on, jake. We got work to do.

Victor: Keep me posted.

[Tense music]

They come in here ready to give me gabi chic, and they go out determined to give me a seat on the dimera board of directors. Like fish in a barrel.

[Imitates gunfire]

[Chuckles]

Roman: Well, all I can say is we are glad to have you back.

Kate: Mm-hmm. Without the tiresome sarah.

Roman: To you, rex.

Kate: To rex.

Rex: Thanks.

Jake: [Exhales sharply] You know, for the life of me, I will never understand why you have to practically strangle yourself to do business.

Gabi: You look very distinguished.

Jake: I felt like a quack.

Gabi: Well, you didn’t come off as one, all right? Today, the way you handled victor, it was as if you spent your entire life in corner offices and boardrooms.

Jake: Oh, yeah? Well, I learned everything by watching you.

Gabi: Hey, listen. Yeah, before we get to that, we need to talk first.

Jake: We do?

Gabi: Yes. We’ve laughed about it, we’ve joked about it, but now that we’re gonna make it happen, we really need to decide who is gonna be ceo of titan.

Jake: We gotta discuss that now?

Gabi: Yeah. Well, I don’t really think it’s gonna take too long; I’ve been thinking about it, and I think we should just split things 50/50. You know, just co-ceos.

Jake: Like hell we will be.

Shawn: So victor fired philip as ceo of titan. All right, do you know if brady was next in line to take the job?

Chloe: No. Brady is happy at basic black, and I don’t think that they ever really fought about the business stuff. It was always personal, about me.

Shawn: Yeah, well, I just think it’s safe to say that philip didn’t see these texts until after you were gone.

Chloe: It looks really bad.

Shawn: Yeah. Well, let’s go see what brady has to say.

Chloe: I don’t know that he’s in any shape to answer questions right now.

Shawn: Okay. All right. Well, I’m gonna go call one of the officers on the scene. I’m gonna see if there’s anything new.

Chloe: Okay, I’m gonna call victor and see if he’s heard anything.

Shawn: Okay, okay.

[Cell phone beeps]

[Line trilling]

[Cell phone rings]

Victor: What the hell do you want?

Chloe: Hi, victor. I’m just calling to ask if you have heard anything from philip or seen him tonight.

Victor: No, and after the last stunt he pulled with ava vitali, he’s as good as dead to me.

[Cell phone beeps]

Gwen: Hi, hi, hi.

[Chuckles]

Xander: So are you ready for an above-average dinner?

Gwen: [Chuckles] Serena: It’s my 3:10

Roman: All right, so how long you gonna stay?

Rex: I’m not sure yet.

Kate: Well, there are gonna be a ton of people who are gonna be so thrilled to see you.

Gwen: We can’t go in there.

Xander: Why not?

Gwen: Because I don’t really like the look of the blokes in there. And do you know what? Darling, why should we have to settle for pub food? Why don’t we go to the bistro, have a decent meal at the bar, and perhaps even talk our way into getting a table?

Xander: Whatever my lady wants, my lady gets. The bistro it is.

Chad: You know, I am kinda tired, but I could take you out to dinner, if you want?

Abigail: Hmm. Hmm.

Chad: Hmm.

Abigail: I’m kinda tired too, so I think we should stay in. I don’t want to take the chance of running into someone we don’t want to see. Besides, I already spoke to the kitchen, and it’s gonna be ready in an hour.

Chad: Okay. So we have about an hour to kill.

Abigail: Yeah, we do. Do you think you could find the energy to close another deal?

Chad: What are your terms?

Abigail: My terms… for the rest of the night: No business, only pleasure.

Chad: Oh, okay. I can do that.

Jake: Uh-uh, see, we don’t have to share power. You know why? As soon as we take over both companies, you’ll run titan, I’ll run dimera.

Gabi: Oh, I like the sound of that.

Jake: Right? And we’ll work on it first thing in the morning, but in the meantime, why don’t we work on a little merger of our own?

Chloe: Victor hasn’t heard from him. What?

Shawn: Got more bad news. There was blood found by the knife. A trail of it. It led down to the water. I put the order in to have the river dragged, so from now on, I think we’re gonna have to start looking at this as a possible homicide. And unfortunately, brady’s our prime suspect.

Gwen: Right, so it was down to the dregs at the hotel lobby shop, but I did manage to get some very tasty double chocolate bars.

Xander: Forget the granola bars.

Gwen: Don’t tell me you’ve squirreled away some peanut butter pretzels?

Xander: No. Even better. I was thinking we could go out.

Gwen: Out? Out? As in a restaurant, out?

Xander: Yeah, why not? Treat ourselves to a nice dinner at julie’s place like a couple of civilized human beings. What do you say?

Gwen: I say that sounds absolutely wonderful, but how are we gonna pay for that, hmm? ‘Cause last time I checked, our bank accounts were both pinned on empty.

Xander: Who said anything about paying for it?

Gwen: I don’t know what you mean.

Xander: Come on. You’ve never heard of dine and dash?

Gwen: Oh, you.

Chloe: Oh my god, brady. Brady, please wake up. Please wake up.

Victor: Just when you thought the stock couldn’t go any lower. Maggie? The hell’d you do with my antacids?

Gabi: What is it? Titan had another bad day?

Victor: Titan is just fine. It’s the thought of you two darkening my doorstep that gives me a problem.

Jake: Ah, you see? Victor’s not fazed by a little downward blip in the market.

Gabi: Why should he be? He knows that titan’s gonna end up on top, even without having a ceo.

Victor: How long did you two rehearse this transparent little play?

Jake: Are we wrong about the ceo position?

Victor: I still haven’t appointed anyone. I’m studying my options.

Jake: Well, then today is your lucky day.

Gabi: Victor kiriakis, your search is over.

Chloe: Oh my god. Oh my god. Brady, please. Please wake up. Please wake up. Brady, can you hear me? Oh, thank god. Oh, thank god. Thank god.

Brady: What, chloe…?

Chloe: Don’t, don’t, don’t, don’t move. I think you’re really hurt.

Brady: Chloe. What is it? What happened?

Gwen: You want us to go to julie’s and pull a dine and dash?

Gwen: Yes, I am actually quite well-versed in the concept.

Xander: Well, then. You know how rewarding it can be. Not only do we get a tasty dinner, it would be quite fun. I mean, we’d order the most expensive thing on the menu and leave julie to pay for it. It would be great.

Gwen: You mean steal from julie?

Xander: After the way she’s treated us, it’s she least she owes us. A nice, free dinner.

Gwen: Well, I definitely can’t argue with that. But, you know, with all these recent brushes with the law, don’t you think that it’s just best to keep our noses and everything else clean?

Xander: I don’t think we’ll do time for a dine and dash. I mean, remember when I stole that whole bottle of fine scotch from julie? All she made me do was pay restitution.

Gwen: So you’re banking on julie not calling the cops, then?

Xander: I can’t believe how worried you are about this. It’s kind of adorable.

Gwen: Well, look, it’s just– I don’t really think it’s worth the risk for just an average, mediocre night out, that’s all.

Xander: Average? Mediocre?

Gwen: I mean, the meal. I don’t mean you, the company. You know, and well, we just got out of all that mess with trask, didn’t we?

Xander: All right, all right, you have a point. I guess even a michelin-star meal isn’t worth another tangle with the law. We won’t dine and dash.

Gwen: Okay. So back to the very tasty chocolate bar, then?

Xander: Absolutely not. I promised you a dinner, and a dinner you shall have. I’ll even going to pay for it.

Gwen: How?

Xander: Well, let’s see. Look what I received in the mail today. Plenty of credit to spare.

Roman: Cheers.

Kate: Just cheers? I mean, how am I gonna toast if I don’t know what I’m toasting?

Roman: Well, okay then. Let’s drink to surprise.

Kate: Okay. That works. Mmm, that’s lovely.

Roman: I thought you’d like it.

Kate: So okay. So what is all of this? Why the champagne?

Roman: All right, you know what? I was thinking you finally gave me the go ahead to–as I so eloquently put it, romance the hell out of you. But so far–so far, I haven’t really lived up to my end of the bargain. All right? I took you on one date, to a wedding that ended in disaster.

Kate: That was utter disaster.

Roman: Yes. So I thought we deserved better. You deserved better. So consider this a do-over. Madam, may I show you to your seat?

Kate: Oh, then. Yes, you can, sir. Thank you.

[Soft romantic music]

Ava: What do you mean, kristen’s van didn’t make it to statesville? Where is she?

Rafe: Well, we’ve had units searching for the last hour. And I finally just got word that they found the van and the two guards who were accompanying her.

Ava: Found them where?

Rafe: Well, apparently, kristen was able to overpower them and forced the van from the road.

Ava: Wow.

Rafe: Yeah. And in the confusion of the crash, she was able to get away.

Ava: That sounds like a daring escape. Couldn’t have been easy to pull that off.

Rafe: Yeah, exactly. Which is why I don’t believe for a second that she did it by herself.

Ava: What do you mean?

Rafe: I mean that she had help. And I think that I’m staring at her accomplice as I speak.

Victor: So you two think I should hire you to be ceos of titan?

Gabi: Why not? We have more than enough experience.

Jake: You want to hear our pitch?

Victor: Why not? I could use a good laugh.

Gabi: Well, you know, laugh all you want, but we’re the only ones that can save your company from its current free-fall.

Victor: Why you?

Gabi: Well, we have executive experience. We have worked at titan before, so we can hit the ground running.

Jake: Right. We’re very familiar with the day-to-day operations.

Gabi: What more capable hands are you going to find?

Victor: Is this the part where I get to respond?

Gabi: Sure. Go ahead.

Victor: How’s this? I don’t give a damn about your business experience. I don’t care if you’re steve jobs and john D. Rockefeller reincarnated. I wouldn’t hire you. Besides, if I’m gonna replace philip, I can do that from a member of my own family.

Chloe: Oh, my god.

Brady: I don’t–I don’t know. I don’t know where all this blood came from, chloe.

Chloe: What do you mean? Is–the blood’s not yours?

Brady: No, I don’t think–i don’t think so.

Chloe: Okay, what–what’s wrong with you?

Kate: How exotic.

Roman: We have done this together too many times for me to pretend to be anyone other than who I am.

Kate: Okay. And I wouldn’t want it any other way. I’m not complaining. All right.

[Soft music]

Mmm. Hold on. What? This isn’t the same chowder. Did you put something in it? Is this lobster?

Roman: Not to mention paprika and thyme. Look, we all know that maud’s recipe for chowder is the best of the best. Okay? It can’t be beat. That’s why we have it on the menu every single day. So for tonight, I thought, “you know what? I’m gonna add my own touch. Just to make it a little more personal.”

Kate: Wow, it is absolutely fantastic. It deserves to be on the menu.

Roman: Hey, let’s not go crazy. Have you seen the price of lobster these days?

Kate: I know. You really have gone all out for me.

Roman: I told you I would. All you had to do was say the word.

Kate: I think I’m beginning to understand. The pub, transformed. A new suit. Lobster in the chowder. You’re still you.

Roman: But you know what? You make me want to be just a little bit better.

Rafe: Excuse me. I need to speak to both of you.

Xander: Sorry, commissioner, we’re just on our way to dinner.

Rafe: Well, you’re gonna need to postpone it.

Gwen: What’s this about?

Rafe: Well, as you know, kristen dimera was being transported to statesville today.

Xander: So?

Rafe: So she didn’t make it.

Gwen: What does that mean?

Rafe: Well, gwen, it means she escaped.

Gwen: Escaped?

Rafe: That’s right. So I’m gonna need to take you in for questioning.

Gwen: Me? Why?

Rafe: Not you. Your friend here.

Gwen: Xander?

Xander: Wait, you think I know something about kristen’s escape? You can’t be serious.

Rafe: Do you want to do this the easy way, or do I need to arrest you?

Xander: I’d hardly call going down to the police station “easy,” but fine. Whatever. Lead the way.

Gwen: Xander.

Xander: Darling, you okay if we just take a rain check?

Gwen: Yes, of course. Commissioner, please don’t keep him too long.

Rafe: Yeah, it won’t take long at all, as long as he confesses. Sorry, we’re going to have to postpone ours, too.

Ava: Don’t worry about it. You’ve got a job to do. I’ll see you at the house.

Gabi: Yeah, I know you’ve always wanted one of your family members to take the reins of titan. But you know, you and i both know they have all failed you one way or another. And at this point, you’ve driven away anyone who’s thought of becoming ceo.

Victor: We have had our differences of opinion from time to time, yes.

Gabi: That’s–that’s one way to put it.

Victor: Company’s still our family legacy. There’s not a kiriakis alive who wouldn’t jump at the chance to run titan.

Jake: Like who? Xander?

Gabi: He quit because you kept passing him over for philip. He doesn’t want anything to do with you.

Jake: I suppose there’s always justin.

Gabi: Yeah, but he’s never been interested in the corporate world. You know, he’s busy taking up lost causes. Oh, and then there’s sonny. Yep, sonny, who moved to arizona to run any business but this one.

Victor: All right, all right. You’ve made your point. There’s one that you’ve forgotten, though. Brady.

Chloe: Oh, my god, brady. Okay, so philip was here earlier. Have you seen him?

Brady: Philip?

Chloe: Yes. Be careful. You’re hurt.

Brady: I’m good. The blood isn’t mine. I don’t even know whose it is.

Chloe: Okay, philip was here earlier. Did you see him?

Brady: Philip. It’s just philip. God, you’re talking about philip all the time. He doesn’t–he doesn’t deserve you. He never did. I mean–

Roman: Close.

Kate: Ah, filet mignon. Very, very nice.

Roman: Now, I could put that on a bun if you’d prefer.

Kate: Oh, no, no. No. It’s quite nice as it is. Thank you very much. But I will let you know.

Roman: Okay. Medium rare. Did I get that right?

Kate: Of course you got it right. Of course you did because you know me so well.

Roman: Well, I’ve had time to learn, both in a relationship and out of one. Speaking of which–

Kate: Yes?

Roman: I know we did go to the wedding, but we really still haven’t gone public with our status yet.

Kate: “With our status.” Okay, well, what do you want to do? You want to do a media blitz on social media? Would you like to take out a full-page ad in “the spectator” or what?

Roman: You know what? I love that a lot, but no. I’m just thinking about, you know, telling our nearest and dearest.

Kate: The kids.

Roman: Yeah. Yeah. Have you? Have you told yours about us yet?

Kate: No. Well, have you told yours?

Roman: Well, carrie and eric are out of the country, and I haven’t talked to them since you gave me the word.

Kate: Okay. Okay. That’s two.

Roman: Yeah, well, sami, hell. Sami’s off somewhere. Wherever sami in hell goes. You know.

Kate: So obviously, the answer is no.

Roman: Okay. Now it’s your turn. Have you told your kids that we’re back together?

Ava: I ordered rafe a burger. It’s yours if you want it.

Gwen: Thanks, but now I’m afraid I just lost my appetite.

Ava: Can’t blame you. For a second there, I thought that rafe was going to arrest you.

Gwen: You know, honestly, I think I’d be happier if he had.

Ava: Why?

Gwen: Because xander has been accused of doing something that he didn’t do yet again. Again. And it’s something that I did.

Ava: Okay. Maybe you want to keep your voice down a bit.

Gwen: Sorry. You’re right. I’m just really upset. This just isn’t– this isn’t right.

Ava: Well, you know, getting caught isn’t going to help anything.

Gwen: Yeah, I know. But I just can’t believe this. Because I am the one person who can clear his name, but I-I can’t do that without implicating myself.

Ava: That is a conundrum.

Gwen: Yeah. The whole reason that I agreed to help kristen escape was so that I wouldn’t lose xander. But now– if he goes to jail, I’m–I’m gonna lose him anyway.

Rafe: Well, seeing as though neither one of us got dinner…

Xander: What is it with granola bars today?

Rafe: I’ve got cranberry walnut or blueberry surprise.

Xander: I’ll pass, thanks.

Rafe: Suit yourself.

Xander: Well, look. Now that you’ve completely destroyed my evening, you mind telling me why you think I had anything to do with kristen escaping from her prison transport?

Rafe: Well, you used to work for her.

Xander: I used to work with kristen. It was a long time ago.

Rafe: Not that long.

Xander: Right, but it was before she hated my guts for switching her baby with sarah’S.

Rafe: Well, something tells me that she would forgive you if she thought you could find a way to secure her freedom.

Xander: I had nothing to do with it.

Rafe: Okay. So you just happened to show up here the same day that she was getting transported back to statesville?

Xander: I was here to ask kristen questions about sarah. You–you were there. You heard me.

Rafe: I did. You know what, I’m gonna be honest with you. It really didn’t make sense to me that kristen had anything to do with sarah leaving you.

Xander: Oh. It doesn’t have to make sense to you because it’s none of your damn business.

Rafe: Well, actually it is. Especially if you’re using the story as a front to break her out of here. Nyquil severe gives you powerful relief

Chloe: So do you see anything?

Kayla: Nothing yet. So you just found him like this?

Chloe: Yeah. And–and he said that he wasn’t hurt.

Kayla: Well, I think he’s right. I don’t see any lacerations or a puncture wound, nothing that would have him hemorrhage like this.

Chloe: So he’s okay?

Kayla: Well, his vitals are stable. And he doesn’t seem to be in acute distress.

Chloe: What–I mean, something happened, kayla. I found him and he seemed confused. He was slurring his words and then he just passed out.

Kayla: Well, he does have a bump on his head. I mean, it could be some kind of trauma that caused him to lose consciousness.

Chloe: Could that be where the blood’s from?

Kayla: I searched his entire scalp, and there is no wound. I’m gonna order a ct scan just to make sure that he isn’t concussed. But as far as any injuries, I just don’t see any.

Gabi: You think brady is going to take over titan?

Jake: Last I checked, brady was working with my brothers at dimera.

Gabi: Yeah, and from what I hear, he’s happy there. So any other family members you’d like to mention?

Victor: All right. Fine. So the next ceo of titan won’t have kiriakis blood in his veins.

Gabi: And here we are.

Jake: Here we are.

Victor: You’re forgetting one very important detail.

Gabi: What’s that?

Victor: You’re the ones that planted the spyware to take down philip. Why should I hire two people who’d be running titan who tried to destroy the company?

Kate: Seriously, roman, after all this time, do you think the kids are really interested in our love life?

Roman: You know what? If I have learned one thing, it’s when I assume my kids don’t care, that’s exactly when they leap in with all their opinions.

Kate: Well, it’s not like we’re trying to hide anything, you know. I mean, I thought that would tell philip and lucas the next time I saw them.

Roman: Which is when?

Kate: Well, I’ve called them. I mean, they just haven’t answered my messages yet.

Roman: The older they get, the harder they are to pin down.

Kate: Well, they do have their lives to live too, you know.

Roman: Yeah, which is exactly why I love a good family holiday. Because it pretty much obligates them all to come home. And would you look at that? There happens to be one right around the corner.

Kate: Oh, like–all right. So now I see where this is all going. You want to get everyone together so we can break the news at christmas time, right. Is that it?

Roman: You know, we usually have a get-together here for the kids and grandkids anyway. You know, why not make that our coming out party?

Kate: Actually, it would be kind of a good idea to tell everyone at the same time, right. I mean, if there’s any fallout, at least we’re a team.

Roman: Exactly. Sami and eric and lucas and philip will all be in the same room. And who knows, we may get lucky and see our son then, too.

Kate: Yeah. Do you ever think we’re going to be able to get rex to take a break from saving lives with doctors without borders?

Roman: You know, I’ve been thinking about that. And I think if we both work on him together, we just might be able to convince him to bring sarah home for a real holiday celebration.

Kate: Oh, my gosh. Cheers to that.

Roman: Right.

Gwen: This was never supposed to happen. Kristen said this wouldn’t come back at me.

Ava: Okay, would you calm down? It’s like you want to tell the whole square your business.

Gwen: That’s so easy for you to say, isn’t it? ‘Cause my boyfriend didn’t just come and take your boyfriend in for questioning while you were on your way to a nice dinner, did he?

Ava: I’m sorry you had to cancel your plans, but it’s all going to work out.

Gwen: Yeah?

Ava: Yeah.

Gwen: How?

Ava: Have you forgotten? Xander’s innocent. So rafe doesn’t actually have anything on him.

Gwen: Then why did he take him in for questioning?

Ava: I don’t know. Fishing expedition. You know, round up the usual suspects, that sort of thing.

Gwen: Are you sure?

Ava: Take it from someone who has stonewalled her fair share of police interrogations. I can tell when the cops have the goods and when they’re just bluffing.

Gwen: You think rafe is bluffing?

Ava: Like I said, he doesn’t have anything. All right. Take a deep breath. Have a fry, maybe two.

Gwen: Yeah, okay.

Ava: Better, huh?

Gwen: You’re right.

Ava: What?

Gwen: I don’t know. I just can’t–I can’t help thinking that this whole thing is just gonna fall apart anyway, even if xander doesn’t get busted. I mean, the whole reason I went to these lengths was to make sure that xander wouldn’t get back together with his ex.

Ava: Wait a minute. I thought that sarah left xander to be with her ex-husband.

Gwen: Well, I mean…

Ava: Ah. So there’s more to this story after all.

Gwen: Just forget I said anything.

Ava: Oh, what, you don’t trust me? We just committed a felony together. If I need leverage on you, oh baby, I’ve got plenty.

Gwen: I suppose you’re right. Plus, I’ve been dying to tell somebody about what I did. Psoriatic arthritis, made my joints stiff,…

Kate: This feels like dessert time.

Roman: Not just dessert. The piece de resistance. Creme brléE. I torched it myself.

Kate: My favorite.

Roman: You weren’t hoping for something new and fresh?

Kate: Oh, I’ve had something new and fresh, and it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. Mmm. The classics are the classics for a reason.

Roman: Kind of like us.

Kate: Do you think we’re a classic?

Roman: You know what? What I do know is this. We had something very, very special a few years back. I know it didn’t last, but you could think of us as back in style.

Kate: You don’t think it’s too early?

Roman: For what?

Kate: For all of this, you know. For all of it. For calling us–for calling us a classic, for wanting to make a big announcement to the family. I mean, really, roman, it’s only a date and a half.

Roman: I think it should’ve happened a long time ago. How about you?

Kate: I think that you did good tonight, roman. I think you did real good.

Roman: Thank you.

Xander: Why the hell would you think that me confronting kristen about my fiancée dumping me was a front?

Rafe: It got you in the building, didn’t it? And then, no one would be suspicious when they saw you leave.

Xander: I only left because I didn’t get any satisfaction.

Rafe: Mm-hmm. Or maybe you followed kristen out to the prison transfer van.

Xander: No. And your entire premise makes no sense. Why would I lift a finger to help that woman? She’s done nothing but cause me grief.

Rafe: No. Maybe you felt like you owed her after the baby switch.

Xander: I owe her nothing. I mean, she’s the one who called me to tell me that sarah was hooking up with rex. Because of her, I had to walk in on the love of my life with another man on my wedding day.

Rafe: That must have been rough.

Xander: Rough? It almost destroyed me. So commissioner, believe me when I say that rotting in prison for the next few years is too good for kristen dimera. And if someone helped her break out, I hope you lock them up, too.

Ava: So sarah’s not off with rex?

Gwen: No. She’s fending off bugs on some tropical deserted island where kristen sent her to.

Ava: Kristen does not mess around, does she?

Gwen: Exactly.

Ava: So that’s why you helped break her out of jail. Because at any moment, she can tell xander where to find his not-so-runaway bride.

Gwen: I’m not proud of it.

Ava: Hey, it’s working.

Gwen: Is it working, really? Because honestly, I feel terrible that this poor woman is being kept away from all her friends and family.

Ava: Not terrible enough to tell xander.

Gwen: No. Of course not. Because I’d feel a lot worse if she came back and took him from me.

Ava: Look, I can see you’re conflicted, gwen. But you know, you didn’t kidnap her.

Gwen: I’m certainly aiding and abetting, aren’t I? You really don’t think that I have anything to feel guilty about?

Ava: I’m not saying it’s not shady or not even illegal, okay? But you’re not exactly an angel.

Gwen: I know. But kidnapping is–it–

Ava: Just a word, gwen. It’s just a word.

Gwen: It’s also a crime.

Ava: Okay. From someone who has made her living on the wrong side of the law, can I offer you a little advice?

Gwen: Advice? Advice from a career criminal. That’s–that’s perfect.

Ava: There’s no point in wasting time worrying about who you may have hurt. You knew what you wanted and you made your choice to get it. People do it every day. Right?

Gwen: Yeah.

Ava: Yeah.

Gwen: They certainly did that to me. My whole life was based on other people’s choices.

Ava: Hey. And you were collateral damage. Right? It’s not pretty. You made the best of it. And so will sarah.

Gwen: What if something happens to her on that island?

Ava: Gwen, you got what you want, right? Stop worrying about how you got it.

Gabi: Don’t tell me you’re still upset about the keylogger. We weren’t–we weren’t trying to take down titan. We were trying to get rid of philip.

Victor: Oh, well, call me old-fashioned, but I tend to frown on corporate espionage, especially when it’s aimed at my son.

Jake: You know, gabs, maybe we should go.

Gabi: Go? What–we’re doing–we’re doing victor a favor.

Victor: A favor?

Gabi: I mean, come on. Philip is a lousy ceo. I–I know he’s your son. We only installed that keylogger to expose how incompetent philip was.

Victor: Well, if that’s the case, why didn’t you say so?

Gabi: You–you don’t believe us? You obviously agree that philip is in no shape to run this company. I mean, why else would you fire your own son?

Victor: My feelings about philip as a ceo are moot. But if you’re trying to sell yourselves, you’re doing a lousy job.

Gabi: I disagree.

Victor: Well, it’s not up to you, is it? So if you want the number one spot at titan, you’d better come up with something new, and fast.

Kayla: Brady? It’s kayla. You’re at the hospital. Can you hear me?

Chloe: Brady, brady, I’m here, too, okay?

Kayla: You said you talked to him before?

Chloe: I-yeah, but he didn’t say much. He just seemed really confused, and then he passed out.

Kayla: I’m gonna message the lab and find out what the hold-up is on the ct. I’ll check on the other blood work as well.

Chloe: If that’s not his blood–

Kayla: Well, we’ll know soon enough. I swabbed everything and I sent it to the lab.

Chloe: Okay.

Kayla: How did you find him anyway? Did he call you?

Chloe: No. I was–I was looking for philip, actually.

Kayla: Well, did you see philip?

Chloe: No, he wasn’t there.

Kayla: Chloe, do you think–

Chloe: That that could be philip’s blood? Yeah, it’s crossed my mind.

Kayla: When was the last time that you heard from him?

Chloe: I left him at the riverbank, and when I back there, I just–I just found brady, but–I have to find him.

[Line trilling]

[Phone ringing]

Kayla: What is brady doing with philip’s phone? I’ve lost count of how many asthma attacks I’ve had.

Brady: [Groans]

Chloe: Brady. Brady, it’s me. It’s chloe. Can you hear me?

Brady: Chloe. Chloe.

Chloe: Brady, can you– can you tell me what’s–what’s going on? What happened? What happened? What–why do you have philip’s phone? Brady, talk to me. What–what–what’s going on?

Kayla: Chloe, I just got brady’s blood work back.

Chloe: And?

Kayla: And his blood alcohol level was 0.25, over three times the legal limit.

Chloe: Oh my god. He was drunk? That explains why he was confused and slurring his words.

Kayla: That’s not the only result I got back. As suspected, the blood on his clothing was not his. It’s o positive.

Chloe: O positive?

Kayla: Does that mean something to you?

Chloe: We–we gave blood together once, but I know that o positive is philip’s blood type.

Xander: If accusations are all you have to throw at me, I have a dinner date waiting for me.

Rafe: You’re free to go for now.

Xander: For now? Look, how much clearer can I make it? I would never help kristen.

Rafe: Just keeping my options open.

Xander: Well, eliminate me from your list. Kristen dimera deserves to be in prison. If someone did help her escape, might be very interested in knowing what they’re getting out of it.

[Tense music]

Ava: I’m not sure rafe’s gonna like this reheated. I can always make meatballs out of it.

Gwen: This is easy for you, isn’t it?

Ava: What is?

Gwen: Just not worrying about who you might hurt.

Ava: I never said it’s easy. It’s just–it’s the way the world works. I mean, were you happier when you didn’t have xander, when you didn’t have control over your own life?

Gwen: No, I wasn’T. Not even close.

Ava: Exactly. Hey. Hey, let me offer you one more bit of advice. You are the only person who can make yourself feel guilty. Because you’re the only person who knows what you did.

Gwen: I guess you’re right.

Ava: I know I am. Look, and as far as xander is concerned, he thinks that sarah and rex are off together saving the world. And no one needs to know otherwise.

[Romantic music playing]

Roman: You still not ready to say we’re classic?

Kate: Well, I mean, I can’t really speak for the whole relationship, but as for tonight, I think it’s one for the books.

Roman: I am glad to hear that.

Kate: Really? How glad?

Roman: Very glad.

Rex: Well, aren’t you two just full of surprises?
