Recap written by Suzanne

Anna tells Martin that the gun they found (that Alexis threw into the river) doesn’t match the one used to kill Cates.

Molly learns from Dex that there’s new evidence in Alexis’ case, and then she gets a text about it.

Portia confesses to Curtis that she changed Heather’s test results. Curtis assures her that no one else should find out (even though Ava knows). Later, Brad tells a tense Portia that he found out that Heather’s lab results had been altered, and he knows Portia used the lab’s computers that same day. He just wants her to know how hard he’s working, so she can vouch for him in the future, since he’s there on a trial basis. Portia tells him that she’s impressed with his work and suggests he give the report about the lab results to the police and the lawyers, without adding his own opinion about them. She promises to ask Terry to make him a full-time worker. He gives her the test results, reminding her that he has the original digital copy. She angrily tears them up after he leaves.

Chase calls Ric and Elizabeth into the PCPD to see if the gun they received matches the one Alexis had, but Ric isn’t sure. Elizabeth prods him into admitting it might be. Curtis gives Ric a hard time for representing Heather. Ric doesn’t think Heather is a threat to Curtis’ family because it was the metallosis due to the cobalt that made her crazy. He hopes she gets released.

Alexis is with Kristina in her cell when a guard comes to get Kristina;  she assumes Sonny confessed. Kristina, Michael and Sam meet in the courthouse, wondering what’s up. Molly and Kristina glare at each other throughout.

Dante wants Sonny to confess, but they’re interrupted. Later, Sonny tells Diane that the gun isn’t his, and he doesn’t know who sent it. Alexis arrives in court.

Elizabeth rants and raves to Terry at GH about Ric, but she’s worried that Lucky will leave again, abandoning Aiden. Later, Brad brings Elizabeth Heather’s test results. Then she gets an alert on her computer that they found a match for Lulu.

Dante confides to Anna that he was tempted to tell Sonny about the gun before he could confess because he didn’t want to have to explain to Rocco about why his grandfather was going to jail (especially with everything that’s going on with Lulu). She knows he loves Lulu.  He lets her know that he would give his life for her.

The charges against Alexis are dropped, since her gun doesn’t match – there is insufficient evidence. Alexis knows what Sonny did for her, and he admits that he’ll do what he can for the people he loves. Molly storms out, telling Michael that she still can’t be around Kristina. She blames her for everything that’s happened.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[siren wailing] [soft music]

Chad, how’s the City of Light?

It’s hard to complain about Paris.

Well, especially when you’re there with someone you love, huh? Yeah, Julie told me you took Abigail on a little impromptu trip.

Yeah, thought it might spur some memories.

Oh, so how’s that going? Did anything come back to her?

Nothing concrete.

Oh, well… she remembered something, then, huh?

Look, Steve, I appreciate your concern, but I know why you’re calling. You’re still suspicious of Abby, aren’t you? [dramatic music] [romantic accordion music] ,::,

Hey, Mark, it’s me. I have news.

Chad and I are getting married. – Wow. That was fast.

I know. I didn’t expect it to come together so soon, but I– I know how high the stakes are. Every time I think about Mom, I just– mm, I don’t have to tell you that everything I’m doing, all of this is for Mom. [suspenseful music]

Kristen has a cure for Sarah’s paralysis? An actual cure?

Well, I didn’t believe it at first either.

Well, what about the swelling on the spine? The doctors–

Every specialist I talked to agrees with the doctors at University Hospital that… Sarah’s chances of walking again–

Are remote. I know. So what does Kristen know that the doctors don’t?

It’s not what. It’s who–Wilhelm Rolf.

That lunatic? He really has something that can help?

Yeah, apparently, it’s some kind of serum, but Kristen will give it to us–for a price.

[laughs] So what is the price?

[sighs] She demanded that we get the charges against Brady dropped. [dramatic music]

Oh. [siren wailing]

[sighs]

How are you holding up?

Hey, I’m fine. But I assume by the look on your face, you heard that I made a deal with the DA, right?

Ten years. I know.

Don’t worry about it. I mean, by the time I’m released, Sarah’s still gonna be in her wheelchair. So if you’re here to talk me out of it, Eric, it’s not gonna–

No, Brady. I’m here to talk to you about you and Fiona.

[echoing] Was Fiona the hit-and-run driver? Did you know that Brady and Fiona were sleeping together? Fiona and Brady were together the night of your accident.

No. No, it can’t be.

[tires screeching] Oh, my God. [door clicks open]

It was you.

Sarah? What are you talking about?

I know. I finally remember who was driving that night. It was you.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Sarah, dear, are you just waking up from a nightmare? Because I can’t imagine–

I know it was you. I’ve never been more sure of anything.

Oh, you’re confused. I mean, first you remembered Brady hitting you, and then you said you didn’t.

I never remembered seeing Brady. I made that up so that Xander wouldn’t kill him. I–I told you that.

Right. But just because you don’t remember seeing Brady driving doesn’t mean he wasn’t. And how on earth could I have anything to do with your accident? [chuckles] And where on earth would you even get such an idea?

From Eric Brady. He was just here. He told me that he spoke to the waiter that served Brady that night and that you– you were with him. You were together at the bar. [dramatic music]

Fiona. OK. OK, I guess you heard about me and her too.

I did. And I can understand why you’d want to keep that under wraps.

Look, when I met her, I didn’t know who the hell she was. She was in a bad place. I was in a bad place. I just–I just wanted someone to talk to at the time.

Brady, I don’t care about that. What I do care about is the night of Sarah’s accident. When you and Fiona were together, was she drinking too?

Listen, Chad, I didn’t mean to upset you. Buddy, you know, we’re on the same side here.

Well, we’re not, no, not if you keep implying that Abby’s an imposter.

Look, we’re talking about my brother’s daughter. I’m concerned about her and about you.

Well, thank you. But for your information, everything is going great. In fact… Abby and I are getting married.

Listen, it’s great that you convinced Chad to marry you, but I’m glad you called when you did.

Why is that?

I just went and saw Clyde at supermax.

Did you tell him I’m in Paris?

Just listen. There’s something else he wants me to do.

Excusez-moi? May I help you?

Abigail?

Kristen’s delusional. You’re not a DA. You can’t decide whether Brady gets prosecuted or not.

No, but Sarah’s ID is the only real evidence against Brady. Without it, EJ has nothing.

Oh, hadn’t thought of that. So she just wants– she wants Brady free.

Then and only then, Kristen will give us the cure.

Huh, that sounds like an impossible choice for Sarah to make.

No, she already made it. It’s just EJ. He–he won’t have it. All he cares about is nailing Brady, so much so that he’ll send Sarah to prison for perjury if she doesn’t stick by her original statement.

Oh, my God.

So now… Brady will go to prison for ten years. And Sarah may never walk again. [dramatic music] It’s all my fault.

So when you spoke to Fiona, she swore that she was completely sober the night of the accident?

Yeah, she also said she couldn’t talk you out of driving and took a cab home.

Then that must have been what happened.

But, Brady, you remember getting home.

No. No, you know that I don’t.

So I’m guessing that you would remember whether she was drinking or not.

Come on, is it that hard to believe that two people were hanging out at a bar and one was drinking and one wasn’t?

Yes, it is, Brady, especially when those two people are recovering alcoholics. Damn it, Brady, would you just tell me the truth?

All right, all right, look, look. She was drinking that night as well.

OK. Now it’s beginning to make some sense, at least. Your friend is correct. I did tell him I was with Brady that night.

Keep going.

Well, there’s nothing more to tell. Doesn’t mean I had anything to do with your accident.

Then why haven’t you said anything before now?

Well, because I didn’t want Xander to know that I’d been with Brady. Surely, you can understand that, given the bad blood between them.

Mm-hmm, so that’s the only reason that you kept quiet?

[sighs] No. Also, that Xander was already very upset about your accident, and the last thing I wanted to do was to add to his pain.

Or admit that you were the cause of it.

Oh, Sarah, whatever Brady did that night, I had nothing to do with it. Yes, I was at the bar with him. And when I saw how drunk he was, I did everything I could to convince him not to drive, but he insisted. My God, when I found out what he had done to you, that he was responsible for running you over and leaving you there–

He wasn’t responsible!

Sarah, you’re letting Eric Brady put ideas in your head. That man is desperate to save his brother.

It doesn’t mean he is wrong.

He wasn’t there.

I was! I finally remember what happened that night. It was you behind the wheel. I know what I saw, so just admit it, Fiona.

It was you!

You’re getting married? You said you took Abigail to France to spur some memories.

Yeah, and that is what happened. It did spur some memories. You know, she– she remembered, Steve. She remembered how happy we were. She remembered that we were in love, and that is something that I have been praying for for months, you know. And just so you know, this was her idea to get married. You know, she wanted to feel those emotions again. She thought it might help her remember more.

[scoffs] I guess you’re not gonna say you’re happy for us, then.

To be honest, I still have questions. And you should too.

Well, I’m marrying my wife, Steve. I’ll make sure to give Abby your best wishes, yeah?

[romantic accordion music]

I got to go. Do I know you?

Oh, hi. I’m Holly Jonas. My mother is Nicole Walker. She was married to EJ?

Oh, OK, yes. [both chuckle]

I was at the house a while back, and I think I saw you there.

Do you mind?

Oh, of course, no.

I’m so sorry. It’s really hard to keep track of all the not-so-familiar faces.

Understandably.

What a crazy coincidence to run into you here in Paris.

Yeah, my mom, she actually lives here now.

Oh, something that I also knew. Yes, OK, good. I’m here with Chad.

Right. OK, I promise you, I wasn’t eavesdropping, but I think I heard you say you’re getting married?

You did hear that, yes. [both laugh] We’re very excited. It was kind of a spur-of-the-moment decision to– but yes, we are.

Wow. Well, you definitely picked the most romantic city in the world to do it. Congratulations.

Thank you.

But weren’t you saying you’re getting married because of your mother? [suspenseful music]

Yeah, no, it’s probably better that she hung up. How am I supposed to tell her that Clyde wants me to commit murder, to kill the man she’s about to marry?

Hello. Is there something you need?

Hey, Dr. Greene?

Yeah, that’s me.

Uh-huh. Well, one of the nurses told me I could find you here. I’m Steve Johnson, Kayla’s husband?

Right. Forgive me. We met a couple of months ago in her office.

That’s right. Well, listen, my wife speaks very highly of you. As a matter of fact, she told me she trusts you implicitly. So I’d like to ask a favor.

OK.

I know you ran that DNA test for her on my niece, Abigail DiMera.

I did.

Well, I’m– I’m hoping you can run it again. [dramatic music]

[romantic accordion music]

My mother? Oh, yes. I was talking on the phone to my brother, JJ. My mom had a hard time accepting that I was actually her daughter, Abigail.

Wow, that must have been really hard for both of you.

Yeah, you know, it is. I mean, but I want my mother back as much as she wants her daughter back. It’s just, I think, right now, it’s gonna take a leap of faith, you know?

Mm-hmm. And you think getting married is gonna help with that?

I’m hoping that it’ll trigger something, you know. And then maybe all my memories will come back, and though I don’t exactly look the same, my mom will finally be able to realize that I am really her daughter.

Well, that’d be awesome. I really hope it works.

Thank you. Well, I–I really appreciate you letting me sit. It was nice to run into you. I probably got to get going now. I–I have to go buy something to get married in.

Right, of course. Wait. Would you actually mind if I come with you?

Xander, how could this possibly be your fault? Kristen’s the one who expects Sarah to lie, to say she doesn’t remember Brady hitting her.

Except… that wouldn’t really be a lie. [dramatic music]

What do you mean?

Sarah doesn’t really remember who was behind the wheel that night.

But her statement is the reason that Brady is heading to prison. I mean, you said that was the only reason.

We both knew that he was guilty. It’s just, Sarah convinced herself that she had to do it.

She lied to the police?

She felt she had no choice.

[sighs]

Maggie… Sarah made up that story about Brady to– she did it to save me.

Save you? From what?

You remember when you found me in the office with that gun?

[gasps] Oh. And you gave me that line about the company needing extra security because you were now Titan’s CEO?

Yeah.

Ah.

Yeah, I had a feeling you didn’t buy it.

Mm.

It wasn’t true, obviously.

I was gonna use it to kill Brady.

So Fiona lied to me about staying sober. What if she lied about you driving as well?

What? What? What? No, no, no. I woke up in the driver’s seat of the car, Eric, all right? I was the one that hit Sarah. I was the one that left Sarah there. And I was the one that drove home…

Brady.

And passed out, OK? That’s what happened.

I’m not so sure about that. What if–

Eric, that’s what happened.

What if Fiona, she placed you there in the driver’s seat of that car?

What if she pulled a– what if she pulled an Orpheus?

When I close my eyes, I can see you, Fiona. I can see you so clearly.

[scoffs] This is– this just doesn’t make sense. Why are you doing this? You’ve never had a clear memory of what happened.

But I do now. It was you.

Sarah, please.

All this time, you’ve been lying about what you did to me.

This is nothing more than the power of suggestion. Brady’s brother put that idea in your head.

Mm. How did it happen, huh? You must have been drinking too.

No. I was sober. You saw me at your wedding. I had nothing to drink that evening except sparkling cider. That should have told you something.

I was talking about later, damn it, at the bar with Brady. You know, I’m so sick of you stonewalling.

What are you doing?

What do you think I’m doing? I’m calling Xander.

What are you doing?

You can’t do that. You can’t call my son. I’ll lose him. Do you understand? I just got him back in my life.

You hit me with a car, and then you kept going.

If Xander finds out the truth, I will have nothing!

Do you think that I give a damn? [dramatic music]

You have no idea what it was like for me before. I was so lonely, so miserable. And now, after all those years, I finally have a family. I finally have my son.

And his money?

Oh! That is not what this is about.

No, it’s about you running me down in cold blood.

But it was an accident. [sighs] Yes, I was drinking.

But Brady was so much worse, Sarah. He could barely stand on his own two feet. I thought I was doing the right thing.

[scoffs] By driving drunk? Give me my phone back. I am done listening to you.

I never meant to hurt you. Everything would have been OK if I–if I–

I took my eyes off the road for one second, one second. And suddenly, you appeared. I was horrified when I hit you.

Oh, so horrified that you couldn’t speak anymore? That must have been why you didn’t call for help.

No! I heard Xander coming. I knew he would make sure you were taken care of. Sarah, I hate myself for what I’ve done.

Not enough to stop Brady for taking the fall for it.

Xander, you really would have gone that far?

You know I can’t lie to you, Maggie. But I had blood in my eyes.

But Brady.

Look, I know how important he is to you, so this– this is all very difficult to say, but I needed justice for Sarah.

Everyone wanted that, Xander.

She wasn’t gonna get it, was she? Not the way things were going, not unless I did something about it. But then when Sarah found out what I was planning, she– she called the police and told them that she remembered seeing Brady behind the wheel.

She lied to save you from yourself.

I hired somebody to drug Brady. And he went home and passed out, and I went over there with my gun… intent on making it look like suicide.

That’s when the police showed up, right before I could–

Kill him.

I told you that nothing good could come from this desperation for revenge. Damn it, Xander! When I saw you with the gun, I asked you to let it go.

It was already too late. Everything was in motion. If the police hadn’t showed up when they did, I–

I don’t even want to think about it.

Well… it all led to this. Thanks to me, Maggie, Brady is locked up, where he will stay. And Sarah will never get her hands on that cure.

That terrible accident the night that Adrienne was killed, Orpheus, he was the one who ran her off the road. Do you remember?

Yeah. Of course I remember that.

Well, he also had an unconscious Maggie in his car. He put her in the driver’s seat. And when she woke up–

Maggie assumed that she was guilty.

What if Fiona did the same thing to you?

Hey. Any luck?

Oh, I found the perfect dress.

Yeah?

Yes. And look who I ran into.

What? Holly.

Chad, hi.

What are you doing in Paris?

Hey. I’m visiting my mom. Well, full disclosure, we’re kind of having it out right now. Anyway, I was headed to the hotel room to check in my mom booked for me when I ran into Abigail.

What do you mean, a hotel? No, no, no, no. That sounds lonely. Why don’t you–why don’t you stay here with us? I mean, we have plenty of room.

I’m sure I don’t need to tell you, the first DNA test was conclusive.

Yeah, I understand. And I know that this is an unusual ask, but… [sighs] My niece’s return has been quite an upheaval for our family.

I can imagine.

Yeah. So since Kayla was the one who ordered the first test, I thought this might give her and everyone else some peace of mind, you know, end the whispers.

In that case, I’d be happy to, then. You know, I still think we have the original samples in the lab.

Well, you know what? I have new ones. Kayla told me that samples can degrade over time.

Ah.

So since Abigail’s parents are both in Boston, these are from Abigail and her son, Thomas. Just consider them a fail-safe, huh?

I have some time. Why don’t I take these to the lab now?

Would you mind putting a rush on it?

Absolutely. Yeah, I’ll get the results back to you shortly.

Great. [tense music]

Are you serious? I’m not, like, gonna be in the way?

Yeah, is that a good idea, with– with the wedding and all?

I’m probably gonna be in the way.

What do you mean? No, you’re not gonna be in the way. You’re gonna help us. We need a witness for the wedding. And–and… you need a maid of honor. So, Holly, you can serve double duty.

[chuckles]

Do you hate me? [dramatic music]

Xander… I could never hate you. But you are your own worst enemy.

Don’t you see that when you allow yourself to be consumed by this need for revenge, it ends up hurting you and the people that you love?

I know that now. What I don’t know is how Sarah will ever be able to forgive me, let alone if I can forgive myself.

Well, maybe I can help.

I’ll go and talk to Kristen, appeal to her, one mother to another. Maybe I can convince her to give Sarah this cure.

Well, sounds like you’ll be trying to appeal to her heart, but there’s zero evidence that she actually has one.

But I have to try.

Oh, Maggie… seems like you’re always fixing problems I create.

Xander… you know how I feel about you. But this– this, I’m doing for Sarah.

Well, Victoria, looks like another fine mess I’ve got us into.

Think about it, Brady. When Fiona realizes that she hit her own daughter-in-law, she panics. And then she looks over and sees you slumped in a passenger seat?

And, what–and, what– and, what, she drives me home and then drags me and puts me into the driver’s seat of my own car?

Desperation makes people do crazy things.

Fiona wasn’t driving, OK? This is wild speculation, what you’re saying right now.

But you don’t remember getting home. So how can you tell me whether or not she was driving? Damn it, Brady, would you just search your brain, please?

[echoing]

Brady. Brady!

[groans] What’s go–what’s going on?

I think I hit someone.

Oh, my God.

I never wanted Brady to go to prison. How was I supposed to know he’d turn himself in?

He turned himself in because he’s a decent man who wanted to do the responsible thing for something that you made him think he did. [scoffs] That’s obviously a foreign concept to you.

I was certain Brady would be in the clear after his lawyer worked his magic. His confession was useless if he couldn’t remember. But then you– you went and ID’d him.

As a last resort to keep Xander from killing him, which he never would have wanted to do if we didn’t think that Brady was the one driving. Oh, my God. I cannot believe that I told the police that he is guilty. Brady is going to spend ten years in prison for a crime that he didn’t commit. No, I–I can’t let that happen. I don’t care if EJ puts me in prison for perjury. I have to tell everyone what you did. I have to tell them the truth.

No. I’m sorry, my dear. [sighs] But I just can’t let you do that.

Well, that was fast.

You did say to put a rush on it.

So?

The results are conclusive. Thomas and Abigail are a perfect DNA match.

You’re sure?

Yeah, no mistake. The samples were definitely mother and son.

Wow. Thank you, thank you. I really appreciate this. I knew you were the guy to ask.

Anytime. [dramatic music]

Well, what do you know?

Who would have guessed that Kayla and I are not only husband and wife but mother and son?

Just like I suspected. Dr. Greene, you faked the original results.

Whoever that woman is, she sure as hell ain’t Abigail.

OK, Holly’s all settled in the guest room.

Oh. Great.

Is everything OK?

Yeah. Yeah, of course. I mean, I just– I thought it was gonna be the two of us, but–

Yeah, but, you know, I mean, I felt bad, just everything going on with her mother, and… you know, she was gonna go stay in a hotel. So I just–I thought that you would feel the same.

No, yeah, of course. And I was worried about her too. I mean, that’s why I brought her here with me.

Yeah, exactly. Listen. I promise you, tomorrow is gonna be the perfect day. Right? I mean, we’re getting married. How could it not be? Right?

Yeah. Yeah.

Brady, what is it?

I remember. I remember that night.

OK, what do you remember? What do you see?

Fiona–Fiona was in the car.

And I was in the car, but she was behind the wheel.

I remember her saying that she thought she had hit somebody. I remember it now. She said that. I didn’t do it. I didn’t do it. I wasn’t driving the car. I didn’t hit Sarah.

Brother, I’m innocent.

What are you doing?

What I have to do. You’re the only one that knows the truth.

No, that’s not true. Eric knows too. He’s onto you.

He doesn’t know anything. I’m sorry, my dear. You know I’m very fond of you, but you are about to have a terrible accident.

No, damn it. Stop! [both grunting]

[laughs] Someone will find you at the bottom of the stairs. Maybe Maggie. Maybe my son. And they’ll just think– they’ll just think that you lost control of your chair. It’s a pity, really. No one will be the wiser.

Except for me.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

Kristen, are you here? We need to talk! Kristen, come out and show yourself!

Ugh, my God, there is no need to shout, Xander. I’m right here. [chuckles] I have some good news.

What, you talked to Rolf?

I did, and he is more confident than ever that his adjusted formula will cure Sarah’s paralysis.

That is really good news.

Mm-hmm. Do you have some good news for me? Did you and your wife speak to my brother about Brady’s case?

Uh, actually, we just met with him.

And?

And Sarah told him that she was mistaken when she ID’d Brady as the driver that hit her. So can we have that serum, please?

[sighs] ,::,

Eric.

I’m sorry to stop by unannounced, but I need to talk to you.

I assume it’s about Brady. Look, Eric, I–I should have reached out to you after I came forward.

Listen. That is why I’m here. There’s something I need to know. And I need you to be honest with me. [suspenseful music] Is Brady innocent? Are you covering for your mother-in-law? [suspenseful music]

Am I covering for Fiona?

Yes. Was she the driver who hit you?

Hey there.

Hello.

It’s me, Sophia. From the Bistro?

Oh, yeah, of course.

Let me guess. Our dinner menu was so impressive, you’re heading back to try our lunch special? [suspenseful jazz music]

God, I hope Brady’s brother bought my story. Otherwise–[sighs] Actually–[sighs] Let’s just not think about otherwise.

Actually, no. I’m not heading to the Bistro.

Too bad. I was going to steer you to my table and give you an update on my love life. You know, the guy I like?

Mm. The one with the girlfriend?

Well, she’s not his girlfriend anymore.

Oh?

Yeah. So sad. They broke up.

Hmm. [suspenseful music] [upbeat accordion music]

Uh, yeah, yeah, flight was great, especially because I slept through most of it. Knocked out in Salem, and next thing you know, bonjour, we’re landing in Paris. [chuckles]

Aw! Well, I’m so glad you arrived safely.

We did. And Grandma, it is so beautiful here.

Really? Paris is beautiful? Hmm. I haven’t heard. [chuckles]

Hey, better not be making fun of me or else I’m not going to bring you back any chocolate.

Oh? But I thought I was getting a Hermès scarf.

[laughs] OK, fine. You’ll get that too.

No, I’m teasing, of course. Holly, the only thing you need to bring back is yourself. Holly, have you– have you seen your mom?

Uh, no, not yet. We’re meeting at this café in a little while. Thought it might be best to meet on neutral ground when we have, you know, our big talk.

Yeah. That makes sense. Well, I wish you luck, Holly. Um, it isn’t going to be easy.

I don’t see how it could be. I have to confront her about lying to me my entire life that Eric was the one who really killed my dad.

[car horn honks] [suspenseful music]

I–I think we should wait before– we’re intimate with each other. [Chad sighs]

OK, yeah. We can wait as long as you want to.

Well, I don’t want to wait that long. I mean, I– I just think there’s something that we should do first.

What’s that?

Chad, what if we got married?

You want to get married?

Yeah. Yeah, I do. Soon as possible. [ominous music] [soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Please just take me wherever you have Rolf stashed. My wife really needs the serum.

Eh, hold your horses, cowboy. I need some details.

About what?

Well, about EJ. What did he say when Sarah recanted her story?

What does it matter what he said? I mean, Sarah told him that she was wrong to ID Brady. That’s–that’s all you wanted, right?

And EJ just accepted that?

Without Sarah’s ID, he has no case, so– [suspenseful music]

So, um, EJ specifically said that he would drop the charges?

Well, I would hope he’s doing that as we speak. But if you could just take me to that lab, this is–

Hold that thought.

What are you doing? [Kristen clears throat]

Well, I’m going to call EJ and ask him if he’s actually dropping the charges.

Can’t this wait? [phone beeps] Every second we keep that serum from Sarah is another second she suffers.

[sighs] Oh, EJ. Yes, I wanted to talk– [phone beeps] What are you doing? Oh, I knew it. You’re lying to me, aren’t you? [Kristen sighs]

You think Fiona hit me. Why? Where is this coming from?

Sarah, please, just– just answer the question, OK? Was Fiona the hit-and-run driver?

No, of course not. Where–where did you get this idea?

From you.

From–from me?

Yeah. I saw you and Fiona in the park yesterday and I overheard.

You overheard us say what?

I heard you talk about a secret that you need to keep between you.

That had nothing to do with her being the hit-and-run driver that– Eric, I swear.

So that young man that you like and his little girlfriend, they broke up, did they?

Sure did.

Well, that was fast. What happened?

What can I say? She wasn’t treating him right. They got in a huge fight.

Huh. And did you have anything to do with that fight?

No, I didn’t have to do a thing. She messed everything up between them all in her own. [suspenseful music]

Oh, darling. This isn’t going to be an easy conversation for you or your mom. I just hope that you’ll find it in your heart to forgive her. I mean, to understand why she kept the truth from you for so long.

Yeah. Well, we’ll see.

I love you, Holly. I’ll talk to you soon, OK?

Yeah. I love you too, Grandma. I’ll talk soon. [somber accordion music] [sighs] Come on, Mom. Where are you?

Fiona and I were not talking about my accident when you overheard us.

Then what were you talking about? [suspenseful harp arpeggio]

You have to tell me. Why do you think that I’m lying about Brady?

Well, it’s just that I– I heard you and Xander talking yesterday in the bedroom. I wasn’t eavesdropping. I just happened to be passing by, and you were telling Xander how you’d lied to the police. [suspenseful music]

[sighs] Oh.

And I just can’t figure out why. Is it because you want to see Brady punished?

No. No, it’s not that. I–[sighs] I had no choice.

[sighs] I don’t understand.

Xander has been so consumed with anger, and he is obsessed with getting revenge against Brady. And– Fiona… [whispering] He was going to kill Brady and make it look like a suicide.

[sighs] Oh, dear God.

So you see? I had no choice. I had to lie to the police. And it was the only way to save Brady and your son.

I’m sorry, I just– I can’t say. But it had absolutely nothing to do with my mother-in-law being the driver that hit me. And if that were the case, I sure as hell wouldn’t cover for her.

You don’t believe me. Eric, look, I understand that it is hard to accept that Brady is the one who did it. But how can one overheard conversation convince you that it was Fiona?

Actually, it was more than just that one conversation.

[soft upbeat music]

Well, come on now. Tell me everything about this breakup.

Are you sure? You don’t have someplace to go?

No. I’m grateful for the distraction. So what did this girl do to mess everything up?

You really want to know?

Yeah. Actually, I do. I love a good romantic yarn.

I don’t know what that means, but get this. She totally went behind his back and started going through his father’s stuff.

Wow. Looking for what?

Who knows? Point is he caught her.

[scoffs] Oh, dear.

Yeah. Yeah, so he got all pissed and then she got defensive and then he got defensive and blah, blah, blah. Next thing you know, she tells him it’s over just like that.

Sounds intense.

You have no idea. I said one little thing and she went, like, totally ballistic. It’s really scary.

She attacked you?

Nothing I couldn’t handle. So anyhoo, short story shorter, she told us that her now-ex-boyfriend and I deserve each other and then stormed off.

Hmm. Sounds like she was quite upset.

Hella upset.

Hella. [chuckles] Yes, that is quite a lot.

She doesn’t even know the part that would make her even madder. See, when ex-BFF Holly finds out that her ex-boyfriend Tate and I–

Wait a second. You said Holly and Tate?

Maggie.

Oh, hi.

[whispers] I’m sorry.

It’s good to see you. Listen, you don’t have to whisper. After a busy morning in the park, it’ll take a lot to wake her up. Um, have a seat if you have a few minutes.

Yeah.

Come on.

I do. [Maggie chuckles] Uh, how’s Sarah? She’s, uh– she’s doing all right. She’s getting used to her– her new reality. Thank you for asking.

I just wanted to say I feel really terrible about what happened to her. And my dad does too.

I know he does. Listen, Tate, this is very difficult for you. It must be with your mom in prison and your father heading there soon.

It seems wrong to feel sorry for myself, considering Sarah’s in a wheelchair.

Well, you’re allowed to feel that way. Tate, you know that.

Yeah, well… feels like I’m losing everyone I care about. Mom and Dad.

And Holly?

She told you we broke up?

Yeah, she did.

She wasn’t in school today. Is she OK?

She’s OK. Yeah. She’s in Paris. [somber suspenseful music]

So you want to get married?

I know it’s sudden. But just being here in this old apartment, this magical city with all this familiarity coming back to me, these feelings, I– I mean, not memories. Definitely feelings. My feelings for you. I just–[sighs]

But you’re not ready to be intimate.

Only because–[sighs] I mean, even with the feelings, we’re still sort of strangers, in a way, to each other.

Yeah.

Chad, I– I want to make love to you so much. [chuckles]

[chuckles] OK.

But I–I just– I want to remember our love together. I also want to remember our life. The life that we had. Yeah.

I don’t know, I just– I think maybe getting married could make that happen. [tense music]

So you hope that by us getting married, you’ll get your memories back? [suspenseful music]

I know it’s wishful thinking. But we’re in Paris, where dreams come true.

I thought that was Disneyland.

OK, I’m being serious, Chad.

I–

Look, my memories, right, of the wedding vows, they came back. Imagine us getting to say them to each other here, for real.

[sighs] I don’t know if it’s Paris. I don’t know if it’s a gut feeling. I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know. I just–I feel like recommitting to you, and the City of Light might be the jolt I need to have memories come flooding back.

You think so?

Yeah, I think so. I really, really, really think so. So what do you say? [clears throat] Mr. Chad DiMera? [Chad chuckles] Will you marry me? [chuckles] En Paris?

So Holly’s in Paris?

Mm-hmm. She wanted to see her mother. Nicole couldn’t fly, though, because Jude had an ear infection.

So she flew to France?

[chuckles] Yeah, she did. She needed to confront her mom face to face about her father’s death.

Really sucks that Uncle Eric and Nicole lied to her all these years about what really happened.

Well, Nicole was trying to protect her, and we all just went along with it.

And I know how much that hurt Holly, but that still doesn’t excuse what she tried to do to my dad.

What do you mean?

So she didn’t tell you why we broke up?

Well, not in any detail.

[sighs] OK. Um, well… it all started when I caught Holly in my father’s room digging through his stuff.

Oh, my. What was she looking for?

She was trying to help EJ find dirt on my dad so he could send him to prison.

Oh, I see. So you confronted her?

Yeah, I did. And she got really defensive. Then when my friend Sophia tried to stick up for me… [suspenseful music] Holly physically attacked her.

So this boy you like, his name is Tate?

Yeah.

And his girlfriend’s Holly?

Ex-girlfriend, remember?

So you’re talking about Holly Jonas and Tate Black?

Do you know them?

No, not well. I just happen to live in the same house as Holly.

Wait, you’re not her Grandma Maggie, are you?

What? No. I just told you I don’t know them well.

Oh, right.

Maggie’s daughter is married to my son.

Hmm. Small world. Who knew when you ordered that martini we were, like two–

Listen to me. You need to forget that I ever ordered that drink.

Did you really think I was stupid enough to take your word for it that EJ dropped the charges?

Damn it, Kristen, we did as you asked. We told EJ that Sarah wanted to recant. He just wouldn’t listen. This is your brother’s fault, not ours.

So EJ is not dropping the charges?

He said he’s going to use Sarah’s original statement to put Brady away and there’s nothing we can do to stop him. [energetic suspenseful music]

Only that’s not true.

What do you mean?

Well, I mean there is something you can do.

Like what? We already tried really hard to talk him out of it, believe me.

Well, we can build the pressure.

How?

How? Well, uh, go public. Go public, tell Sarah that she needs to post the truth on social media. Tell “The Spectator” that she came forward and admitted that she was wrong about naming Brady as the hit-and-run driver. And then we tell the world that the DA is hell-bent on prosecuting Brady for something that he didn’t do.

Kristen–

Oh, hold on. Better yet, we could go to EJ’s boss. I mean, if there’s one thing I know about Paulina Price, it’s that she doesn’t need another scandal. And then we make it clear that EJ, my brother, has gone rogue. I mean, he’s burying the fact that his own eyewitness has taken back her statement.

I’m sorry, Kristen, I… can’t do that.

[sighs] Look, I admit it’s a bit of a hunch.

You’re accusing my mother-in-law of running me over and then lying about it based on a–a hunch?

Sarah, did you know that Brady and Fiona were sleeping together?

Yeah. Yeah, I did. She admitted it to Xander. She also said that, you know, they didn’t realize who each other were and that it was just casual and it didn’t last very long. Why does that matter?

It matters because Fiona and Brady were together the night of your accident. [tense music]

[chuckles] Wow. That was not the rousing yes I was hoping for. [Chad sighs] [suspenseful music]

I just, uh… I mean, first of all, Abby, you know that I want to be married to you more than anything in the entire world. But I thought that when we got remarried, it would be with our children and our families.

Yeah, of course. Yeah. Yeah, in a perfect world. But we get to go home to Salem and– and tell them the good news, that we got married. But we also get to tell them that my memories came back if we do this.

That sounds amazing, but what if it doesn’t happen?

Well, if it doesn’t happen, I’m going to stay true to my word. I’m going to tell the children that I’m their mother. That’s my promise to you.

What is it that they say? Come on. Fourth time’s the charm?

Who says that?

Me.

Me.

[softly] No.

Yep. This girl. Me. [Chad sighs]

You know, I can hardly remember a time that I didn’t love you. Or didn’t want to be married to you.

[sighs] Is that a yes?

You want to get married, then let’s get married. [Abigail laughs] One last time. [Abigail laughs] [ominous music] [Abigail chuckles]

You’re saying Holly slapped Sophia?

Yeah. Across the face.

[chuckling] That doesn’t sound like her!

Well, I’m just saying that’s what happened.

Then she must have been provoked.

No, all Sophia did was she called Holly out for snooping on my dad.

Are you sure about that?

Yeah. And she also might have mentioned that she has, uh, feelings for me.

Well, that’s provocative. I–you know, I don’t believe that Holly would hit her. I mean, I know my granddaughter. I don’t know this girl, Sophia.

Well, I’m telling you that I do, and Sophia’s actually– she’s been a pretty good friend to me. [soft suspenseful music]

Oh. How good?

What are you asking me?

Sophia admitted she has feelings for you. Are the feelings mutual?

[phone ringing] [Maggie gasps softly]

Oh.

Did you hear me, young lady? Not a word about that martini.

OK, OK, I heard you. Jeez.

I’m sorry, but my son and his family believe that I’m sober. And if they find out otherwise, it would be disastrous for me.

You look like you’re above the legal age to me. What’s the big deal?

Oh, it’s not a big deal. It’s an enormous deal. Do you understand? [tense music]

I guess.

Don’t guess. Swear. If anyone asks you, the only drink you have ever served me is tap water!

OK–

I am not some lovesick teenage rival that you can mess with, Sophia. You will keep your mouth shut or you’ll be sorry.

So Brady was with Fiona the night of the accident?

I guess she never mentioned that.

No, she didn’t. How do you know this?

Waiter at this small bar. He said that he saw them leave together. And when I asked Fiona about it–

Wait, sorry. You spoke to her about it?

Yeah, she happened to walk in when I was chatting up with the waiter. [suspenseful music]

What did she say?

Well, at first, she claimed that the night of the accident that she and Brady, well, they left separately. But when I informed her that the waiter mentioned something different, well, she admitted that.

So she changed her story?

Yeah, with another lie. She said she went after Brady knowing he was drunk, persuaded him to take a taxi.

You don’t believe her.

No, not for a minute. Nor do I believe that she said she hadn’t had a drink all night.

I don’t get it. Why can’t you go to the press or Mayor Price? I mean, just to force EJ’s hand?

Because he’s threatening to prosecute Sarah for making a false statement to the police.

Oh, that son of a bitch.

Look, I’m not going to let your brother lock Sarah away for perjury while she’s still dealing with the after-effects of this accident.

Come on, I mean, no judge is going to put her behind bars.

You don’t know that. EJ has deep pockets and a lot of connections.

[sighs] This isn’t right, Xander.

I’m not disputing that, but please. I did what I could. But I’m begging you, Kristen, just… bring me that serum. I know you didn’t get the result that you were looking for, but… my wife deserves the chance to walk again.

[suspenseful music] [Abigail moans]

[chuckling] Are you OK?

[chuckles] I’m so OK. I’m better than OK. I’m–

Yeah, me too.

Yeah, yeah.

Cloud nine.

Mm. [laughs] Thank you for agreeing to do this. [sighs] I know it’s sudden, but I– I have a really good feeling about it.

Me too. I mean, if I would have known, I would have bought you a ring.

Oh, I don’t need a ring. But I, um– I am going to need something to wear because I did not pack a wedding gown.

OK.

And Mama can’t wear this. [Abigail chuckles]

Um, OK. Then, you know, we are in Paris, which I’ve heard knows a thing or two about fashion.

Mm.

So why don’t you go…

Oh.

Buy a dress and I’ll make some calls and try to find someone to marry us? [Abigail chuckles] Sound like a plan?

No, sounds like a dream. [chuckles] [suspenseful music]

[Abigail chuckles] [Abigail sighs] [dramatic music] [Abigail sighs]

[phone ringing]

Um, I’m sorry. I have to take this.

Yeah, no worries. I’ll see you around.

OK. Take care, Tate. [phone ringing] [phone beeps]

Holly?

Hi. I just talked to my mom.

Did it not go well? [upbeat accordion music]

No, it– it went better than expected. She basically just apologized a bunch. And I don’t know, she seemed really sincere.

Well, that’s great. Um, where is she now?

She had to go home to relieve the babysitter. She wanted me to come with her, but I told her I just needed some alone time to think. We have plans to meet tomorrow, though.

Well, that’s wonderful. And how are you feeling now? * *

Relieved, I guess. I don’t know. Still processing.

And you will be for quite some time. And hopefully, you’ll be able to let your mother help you. And maybe Eric too. * *

[softly] Yeah, yeah.

So where are you staying tonight?

She booked me a hotel room near where they live.

Right. Well, darling, call me anytime if you want to talk, OK?

OK, I will. Thank you for the support, Grandma. I love you so much.

I love you too. And Holly… your father would be so proud of you. * * [phone beeps] [Holly sobs softly]

Do we have an understanding? [tense music] I said do we have an understanding?

Chill out, lady, would you? I said yes, didn’t I? I swear I won’t tell anyone how much you love a dry martini. I’m not a snitch.

Huh.

Good girl.

[Sophie scoffs]

Sheesh. What a bitch. [Sophie sighs]

But Fiona doesn’t drink.

That’s what she claims. [tense music] I guess it’s all just a moot point anyway. I mean, especially since you remember seeing Brady behind the wheel that night.

You know what? I, uh–I should go. I’m sorry for barging in here. And… and worse, accusing you of lying.

Uh, it’s OK.

No, it’s not. You’ve been through so much. And… I just can’t imagine how hard it’s been for you.

I’m dealing. And I know that it’s a struggle for your brother as well. I know that he’s feeling incredibly guilty, and now he has to go to jail. [suspenseful music]

It’s been tough. It’s been really tough, obviously. Not that it compares to any of your struggle.

I’m just worried about him, his kids.

I just don’t want to lose him.

Take care.

I’m sorry, Xander. No can do on the serum.

What?

Deal’s a deal.

Have you no heart? After everything you did to Sarah on that bloody island, you– you owe her this.

It’s a simple transaction. You make the charges go away, I give you the serum.

Your brother is the only person that can make those charges go away, not me, and he refuses. Come on, Kristen. Sarah needs to be able to walk again, to take care of our little girl!

Well, I have a little girl too, Xander. And my daughter’s father is looking to spend a decade behind bars! Now, I suggest that you put on your thinking cap and try harder to make that not happen! Now, I want Sarah to walk again, but I am not running a charity.

You listen to me, you miserable–

Careful, Xander. I’m your only link to that serum. [tense music]

You know, Kristen… [Kristen sighs]

You DiMeras aren’t the only ones capable of the unthinkable.

Have you checked on Rachel recently?

Why are you asking that?

Just reminding you what I’mcapable of. I mean, who’s to say your precious little daughter wouldn’t, I don’t know, just… vanish from the playground never to be seen again?

I would tread very lightly when making threats about the people I love, Xander. If you touch as much as one hair on Rachel’s head, I will make sure that Rolf disappears forever along with the serum that will cure Sarah’s spinal cord injury. Do we understand each other?

Damn you.

[Kristen sighs]

[mysterious music]

[phone ringing] [phone beeps]

Steve, what’s up? [suspenseful music]

Hey, Mark, it’s me. I have news. [tense music]

[soft upbeat music]

Hey.

Hey yourself. How are you?

Yeah, I’m OK. I just ran into Holly’s grandmother.

Oh. How was that?

It’s fine. It turns out the reason Holly wasn’t in school is she flew to Paris.

Wow, that’s great news.

Why?

Because I know that she’s been really mad at her mom for lying to her, so maybe now, they’ll have a chance to work things out.

You actually care about that?

She’s still my friend, Tate.

Yeah, but she attacked you.

Yeah, she did, but crap happens, right? Just because we like the same guy doesn’t mean I want her to be miserable. And OK, I wouldn’t hate it if Holly decided to stay in Paris. I can have you all to myself.

Hey, Maggie.

Xander, hi. We were just heading home. [tense music] Is everything all right?

No, everything is not all right. Kristen DiMera has a cure for Sarah’s paralysis, but she’s refusing to hand it over. [suspenseful music]

Oh.

Don’t you dare look at me like that, Father. We both know that you would have done much worse to get what you want from your opponent. I just hope I motivated Xander enough to help Brady get out from under those charges.

Cheers.

[tense music] – [words echoing] Was Fiona the hit-and-run driver? Did you know that Brady and Fiona were sleeping together? Fiona and Brady were together the night of your accident.

No. No, it–it can’t be.

[dramatic music]

[tires squealing]

Oh, my God.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[tense music]

Well, if it isn’t my lawyer, Jackie Chiles. Bringing me good news, I hope.

Yes, I have news.

That’s good to hear, Mark. Because if your sister don’t seal the deal with DiMera soon, and I mean soon… [tense music] Your mama’s a dead woman.

[ethereal dreamy chimes]

Well, here we are, our little Parisian paradise.

[laughs] Wow. Ah! It’s gorgeous, Chad. I can see why you kept it as a vacation home.

Yeah. Well, it’s our vacation home now, but for just over a year, it was our home. ,::, You and me and the kids, we had a lot of amazing memories here. [soft dramatic music]

I have a really good feeling about this place. I think it’s going to change everything.

– Abigail and Chad are in Paris?

Yes, they left yesterday morning. They’re both hoping that by being in Paris, she will find herself again.

I see. Did you finally get to meet her?

That’s another conversation. Let’s talk about what’s in the box.

Uh, I baked a fresh batch of lemon bars. But now that everybody is gone, I–

No, no, no. Don’t you dare. I just made a fresh pot of tea. Now, these will go perfectly with that if you’d like to sit and have a chat.

I don’t want to intrude.

Darling, you never intrude. Doug’s upstairs playing Solitaire on the computer. He’s perfectly happy. I have nothing on my plate except these, and we’ve got some catching up to do.

That we do. [chuckles]

You won’t let me withdraw my statement about Brady?

That’s right. I won’t allow it. Now, I have a busy day, so–

EJ, you’re not listening. This has nothing to do with you allowing it. Sarah can no longer positively ID Brady as the driver who hit her.

But she already has. And she seemed pretty damn positive when she spoke to the police about it. Thanks to your eyewitness account, we were finally able to arrest somebody.

Yes. And I am telling you that I made a mistake. You need to release Brady immediately. [tense music] [EJ sighs]

[jazzy lounge music]

– Thank you for saying all of that. I love you too. [Fiona crying] But what we were talking about earlier, that–

That needs to stay between us, OK? No one can know.

Yeah. Yes, of course. I understand completely. It’ll be– it’ll be our little secret.

[jazzy lounge music]

[Eric clears throat]

Ms. Cook?

Yes?

Eric Brady. I believe you know my brother, Brady Black.

[chuckles] Yes, I do. Well, very nice to meet you.

Likewise. I recently learned that you and Brady were romantically involved. I hope that if you don’t mind, I ask you a few questions.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

[sighs] Mr. Brady–

Eric. Please, call me Eric.

Well, Eric… I’m afraid I don’t have much to say about my relationship with your brother. Our affair was short and sweet, and I would look back fondly on our time together except for the fact that the man got blind drunk and ran over my daughter-in-law.

Well, that’s what I was hoping to discuss with you. I was hoping that you might be able to give me a little bit more.. details about the night of the accident.

And why would I know anything about that?

Well, because you were with Brady that night, weren’t you? [suspenseful jazz music]

OK, what’s going on here? I thought you two wanted Brady to pay for putting Sarah in that wheelchair.

We do!

Then why are you suddenly changing your story? [suspenseful music]

Kristen won’t give us the serum unless we–

Go on. [Xander sighs] Unless we what?

Unless you disavow your positive identification of Brady.

Excuse me?

Look, Sarah, I’m sorry. I know that I’m the reason you felt you had to lie to the police in the first place and I hate putting you through all these contortions. But what if this thing works? What if it could heal you? Wouldn’t it be worth it to walk again, to run again, to play with Victoria?

Clyde, I promise you, everything is falling into place. [Clyde scoffs]

I just don’t get your generation, man. [scoffs] You think that failures are successes and that half-assing is hard work. You see, Chad has got DNA evidence showing that your sister is his beloved Abigail. So what the hell’s the hold-up?

Chad’s not the problem. It’s everyone else in Salem. Friends, family, doctors. My sister’s been cross-examined at every turn. One slip-up and–

And what? Something worse than what I’ll do to your mama?

Please. Look, the important thing now is that my sister is ready to seal the deal and she’s come up with the perfect way for you to get what you want.

[suspenseful music]

Hmm.

Sort of remember this.

Yeah, you got it– you bought it at the street fair. Yeah, you were really into art and you talked to the artist for over an hour about. About her process and materials and colors and all that stuff.

Wow, you must have been bored out of your mind.

Yep. [Abigail laughs] No. I, uh… no, I like listening to you talk about art. Or anything that you’re passionate about. And when you get excited, your eyes light up, and you stumble over your words and it’s really cute.

[chuckles] Well, I unfortunately, um… don’t recall all of my art history expertise, but… I do think the colors are pretty.

[laughs] Well, good. Well, that’s a start. [Abigail laughs] [clears throat] I’m just happy to be here with you.

Me too.

OK. Well, uh… I’m going to get some wine. We’ll celebrate our Parisian reunion. – Oui, oui, monsieur.

Yeah? OK, I’ll be right back.

So… why don’t you tell me some stories of our time here? [soft dramatic music]

All right, let’s see. Um…

[takes deep breath] Well, every Sunday we used to take the kids to a different park in the city. We called it la promenade… dimanche.

Ooh, your French is good.

Yeah.

Wow.

How I roll the tongue? It’s stupid.

The Sunday walk?

Yep, that’s it. Uh… Anyway, there was this park of ours that was our favorite. It had this artificial waterfall and grotto. And you had this bright idea to recreate the TLC video “Waterfall.”

Oh, yeah, I definitely remember that song.

Yeah, it was your favorite. [Abigail laughs] Thomas was all about it. Charlotte was a little too small, so you insisted that this old man be the third member.

Oh, I can see it. I can see you as the stand-in for Left Eye.

No, Chilli.

What?

The pretty one. %. [Abigail laughs]

[laughs] Well, excusez moi.

Yeah. Um–[clears throat] Anyway, and I was being the– the dutiful dad. And I, um, you know, I did the whole dance routine. [Abigail laughs] And, uh, you know, I think I was holding my own. At least, that’s what everybody else would have said.

Mm.

Until it got to the end of the song and I lost my footing.

Oh, no.

Oh, yeah.

Oh, no.

Yeah.

Oh, no.

Yeah, and I learned the meaning of the lyrics. I chased a waterfall and I paid the price. [Abigail laughs] I fell hard, hard, and I was drenched and freezing.

Aw. So you were % chilly. Ah? [clicks tongue] That was a good one.

That was good. [Abigail laughs] Yeah, and, um… [inhales deeply] Uh, anyway, it was– it was just a really wonderful moment. And the kids couldn’t stop laughing. And I don’t know if I’ve ever heard you laugh that hard. [soft upbeat music]

You’re, um– you’re a really good husband, Chad. And a good father too.

That’s because I had you by my side. [mysterious music] [Abigail sighs softly]

It seems like you– we were very happy here.

It wasn’t all sunshine, rainbows, waterfalls. [both chuckle]

[tense music]

If your sister’s getting her butt into gear, what did she drag Chad off to Paris for?

Because if Abigail regains her memory in Salem, she’ll have no choice but to include the kids, tell them that their mother’s alive.

Sounds like one big, happy family reunion to me.

My sister would rather not have traumatizing two children on her conscience.

[laughs] Right. Saint Abigail, right? Oh, man. Sounds like she’s a little too into her character.

My sister’s a good person, OK? She would never be involved in anything like this if you weren’t threatening to kill our mother. She’s hated every second of deceiving Chad, let alone Abigail’s entire family.

Well… getting to meet Abigail again… was unique. In the first place, she looks nothing, absolutely nothing like the Abigail that we knew. And when I looked at her, she had the eyes of a stranger. And she was very cold to me, Maggie.

Well, maybe– maybe she was just feeling awkward being back. You know, not remembering her life here, not recognizing anyone. But didn’t you say that she remembered her wedding vows?

Well, so she says. So of course, Chad is hoping she’ll remember more.

In Paris.

Yeah, God willing. Please, tell me how Sarah’s doing.

Ah. Oh, Julie, she’s putting on a brave face for sure. But she’s struggling to adapt. And I’m– I’m trying my best to help however I can.

Darling, you of all people in the world are the one to help her. You walked around on crutches for years, and you walked again. Not to mention being paralyzed more recently and getting healed.

Yeah, well, I was lucky to have the surgery that gave me the ability to walk. But I don’t know. As it stands right now, I– I don’t think my daughter will get that miracle. [tense music]

EJ, don’t get me wrong. I absolutely want Brady to pay for what he did to me, but I can’t lie and say something is true when it’s not.

Mm. Except that’s exactly what’s happening here, isn’t it?

What does that mean?

It means that either you were lying when you said you remembered seeing Brady behind the wheel, or you’re lying now. So which is it?

Oh, I was here before the accident with Brady. I suppose he mentioned that to you.

No, a waiter did.

I see. Why are you questioning him? Are you conducting some sort of investigation?

Well, as you likely know, my brother is in a world of trouble and I’ve just kind of been clinging to the hope that there’s more to the story about what happened that night.

[chuckles] Like what?

I don’t know. That’s why I’m here. To find out more about my brother’s actions that night. And lucky enough, I ran into you. So I was hoping that it might be possible if you could, you know, kind of fill in the blanks for me. [tense jazzy music]

Well, I don’t know what I can tell you that you don’t already know.

Well, why don’t we just start from the beginning? [suspenseful jazzy music]

All right. Well, let’s see. I spent most of the day with my son and his wife. They just got married, and we were still celebrating. And then I got a text from Brady asking me to join him here.

And by this point, you two have been together for a while.

Right. Actually, I was planning on ending things with him that night.

Why is that?

Well, I was in a better place with my son and his family. I didn’t know Brady from Adam when I first met him, but eventually I found out who he was and, more importantly, about his contentious relationship with my son.

Right. So you came here, and–

And Brady was already drunk, actually having a very heated discussion with the waiter, which I managed to de-escalate with a very generous tip.

I heard Brady caused quite a scene. [Fiona sighs] So what happened after that?

Well, he calmed down, he had a couple more drinks, we talked, he left. And, well, you know what happened after that.

No, actually, I don’t.

Oh, isn’t it obvious? He got in his car and he hit Sarah. She ID’d him to the police.

That she did. See, I still have questions.

[chuckles] Such as?

Well, earlier, you implied that Brady, he left here alone. But the waiter, he told me that the two of you left here together.

How dare you accuse my wife of lying? She’s the most honest person I know.

Mm, except when it comes to the paternity of her children.

You smug son of a–

No, baby, it’s fine. It’s fine. [Xander clears throat] EJ…

Mm-hmm?

You’re right. I have been dishonest in the past, and it’s obviously not something I am proud of, which is why I can’t let my initial statement about Brady stand. I can’t, in all good conscience, let him go down for something that I’m no longer sure he did.

Well, that’s too bad, because you and your good conscience have already given a sworn statement, Brady has been arrested and charged, and a conviction has been guaranteed to the mayor. And I will not have egg on my face because you suddenly think your very definite memory is a false one.

So in other words, you’ll gladly convict an innocent man just to protect your fragile little ego. All hail the incorruptible justice system.

Oh, give it up, Xander. We all know that Brady is guilty. And I promise you this. If Sarah retracts her statement, I will have her arrested and charged with perjury. [tense music]

You know, it’s just so hard to see Sarah suffer the way that I did. Although she’s being very brave and stoic, I can see the pain in her eyes, Julie. I mean, I just hope that someday she’ll be able to see that her life is– it can be as rewarding as it was before.

Oh, I’m sure she will with you at her side and her little Victoria.

And not to mention Xander.

Wish that I could forget him.

Julie!

I’m sorry. Oh, not very gracious of me. I know you’re fond of him, Maggie.

He’s my son-in-law. And he’s the love of my daughter’s life. But I have to admit that he’s been obsessing over getting revenge on Brady.

Oh, yeah?

Yeah, But I think he’s– he’s let that go. And hopefully, he’s refocused his efforts on Sarah’s recovery. Especially now that Brady is facing justice.

What a turn of events that was.

Yeah.

I mean, Brady was off the hook. And then suddenly, Sarah remembers he’s the one driving the car that hit her. I mean… [sighs] I guess it’s fortuitous. I suppose.

What are you saying? [tense music] Are you saying that Sarah lied?

[Julie sighs]

It was mostly perfect here. But then I started to work a lot of hours, and I started to cause some problems.

I was feeling neglected?

Yes,

Mm.

Rightfully so. Then someone from your past showed up, this guy named Austin. He showed up on our doorstep. He was going through his own marital problems.

Oh. Oh, he and I didn’t–

No, no, no, no. He wanted to, but you stopped it.

Oh, good for me.

Yes, good for you. You behaved admirably.

Oh, I am relieved.

Me too. [Abigail laughs and sighs]

[sighs] But you know, it was, um… [soft upbeat jazzy music] We had some rough times. And, uh… we went through a lot of obstacles. But…

You know, we always got through them. Together. That’s why I know we’ll get through this too. [Abigail sighs] [ominous music]

Oh. Oh, my God.

What?

I’m– it’s com–it’s–[sighs] It’s coming back. Chad, it’s coming back. I’m starting to remember. I–I can remember.

Hey, man, I do my homework. I know who I get into bed with. And let’s face it, your sister is no saint.

I never said she was a saint. But she’s never done anything like this before. And neither have I.

Yeah. And lucky for me, the two of you will do just about anything to save your sweet mama, whom I will deliver to you safe and sound as long as your sister comes through.

She will. It won’t be long now before she’s Mrs. Chad DiMera.

Yeah, uh… here’s the thing about that. Mrs. Chad DiMera, that don’t work for me. [tense music] The widow DiMera. That’s more like it.

WidowDiMera? [tense music] What are you talking about? I thought you just wanted Chad’s fortune. I thought my sister was going to drain his accounts.

That could get messy. It’s easier if he dies. That way, she inherits and I collect. Easy-peasy.

But– but wouldn’t Chad’s death just raise questions?

I’m just chilling here in supermax. It can’t get traced back to me.

What good is Chad’s fortune to you in here?

My lawyer’s been hard at work. With any luck, I should be out of here in plenty of time to collect my DiMera windfall.

How is that possible? I mean, you out of here? I mean, you’re a convicted murderer.

Ah, here’s the thing. With Abigail’s resurrection, there ain’t no murder victim. Hence, no murder conviction. [laughs] I mean, you don’t need to be a doctor ora lawyer to figure that one out.

What about your– your drug ring? I mean, the other stuff?

My lawyer has found enough procedural infractions that they’ll throw the whole case out. Suffice to say, I will soon be a free man.

You remember our life together?

Um, it’s–um, yeah. I don’t remember specific events, but I’m– [sighs] It’s like I can– I’m not remembering memories. I’m remembering feelings. Like, I know that I was here before. I remember being here. I remember the–the pitter-patter of the kids’ feet on the floor and the window. Like, the light, how the light came in the window. I–I feel like–for the first time, I feel like me. I feel like I’m Abigail Johanna Deveraux DiMera. I–I–[laughs] I can feel it in my body! [both laugh] Oh! [laughs] [mysterious music] And Chad, Chad, that’s not all I remember. I–

I remember you. I–I remember… how much I love you so much. I love you so much.

Now, all I am saying is if I was hit by a car, paralyzed, and the driver drove away, I would be highly motivated to make sure he paid for what he did.

Well, I don’t think that Sarah would be dishonest to make that happen. And in fact, she confided to me that Xander asked her to lie about something and then she just flat-out refused.

Really?

Yeah.

Well, I’m sure justice is being served, but… I can’t rejoice over it because Brady’s a decent guy. And even if he is addicted to alcohol, that’s not a moral flaw. It’s just an illness, as you know very well.

Yeah, I do. I know that Brady is a good person, and I know he has a good heart. He just made a terrible decision. And as much as I don’t at all rejoice, as you put it, he’s being punished for that decision, a price that he has to pay.

And wants to pay, I hear?

Yes, he does. And you know, once he is incarcerated, I hope that Xander and Sarah can move forward with their lives and heal. [tense music]

Are you insane? You can’t–you can’t charge Sarah with perjury.

Like hell I can’t. She made a sworn statement to the police, and now she’s saying that statement is false.

EJ, Xander just told you that I’ve been on pain meds. My memory is a little mixed up lately.

Mm-hmm, and next week, you’ll say you came off the pain meds a little too early, and you’ll want to retract the retraction, and so on and so forth.

I won’t do that. I made a mistake. Please, you have to release Brady. [soft suspenseful music]

Fine. You made a mistake. A mistake that is going to cost you ten years behind bars.

Ten years? What are you talking about?

There’s a plea deal on the table. Brady has agreed to ten years in prison. And trust me, as DA, I will see to it that someone serves that sentence. If it’s not Brady, it’s going to be Sarah.

You think I’m just going to let you bully us into silence?

Try me. I have Sarah’s original statement, and I fully intend to use it to put Brady in prison. If you two want to stop me, go for it. I’ll just have Sarah take his place. I’ll leave the rest up to you.

I’m sorry, I guess I should have clarified. Brady did leave on his own initially, but then I went after him. You see, I was afraid he might be too drunk to drive. So I found him outside and I offered to call him a cab.

But he refused.

[sighs] Well, he insisted he was fine. I could see that he wasn’t, but he wouldn’t listen. So I let him go. If I’d known what was going to happen, Eric, I would have done everything humanly possible to stop him from driving. And I deeply regret that I didn’t. [suspenseful jazzy music]

How did you get home that night?

After Brady left, I took a cab back to my hotel. And then later, Xander called me to tell me about Sarah. [Fiona sighs] I can still hear the fear in his voice. It was just awful. And in fact-[sighs] I’d rather not keep reliving this, so if there’s nothing else–

Just one more thing. Were you drinking that night?

[scoffs] Was Idrinking that night?

That was the question, yes.

Well, the answer is no. I don’t drink, ever. I’m a recovering alcoholic.

As is Brady.

[sighs] Touché. But I assure you I haven’t had a drink in years.

So you didn’t partake with Brady? You just watched him drink?

[sighs] Like I said, we talked while he drank. And before you even think about it, Maggie and I stuck to sparkling cider for my son’s wedding. Feel free to ask around if you don’t believe me.

No, no, no, I don’t think that’ll be necessary.

Good. Because I must say this is starting to feel like the third degree.

Well, I’m just a curious person who’s looking out for his brother.

Right. I understand. And I hope that I have been of some help to you.

You’ve been very helpful. Thank you for all your time. [Fiona sighs] [suspenseful jazzy music]

That arrogant bastard. He’s going to ruin everything. I should have knocked his teeth in.

Xander, please, just focus. [Xander takes deep breath] [suspenseful music] What are we going to do? Kristen is not going to hand over that serum if Brady’s still being charged.

We tried. I mean, that’ll have to be good enough. Look, Kristen knows what a stubborn ass her brother is. Maybe–maybe she’ll understand and give us the serum anyway. I have to talk to her right now.

OK. I’ll go with you.

No, no, no. You stay here. I’ll handle this.

As for me, I shall take comfort in the fact that Sarah got her memory back, so hopefully, Abigail can get her memory back, too, especially now that they’re in Paris together.

Oh, let’s hope.

Hmm. Whether she remembers or not, she did swear when they returned, she will tell the children her mother’s alive. [suspenseful music]

That would obviously be an easier conversation if she had her memory back.

Oh, much easier.

Ay, sounds like there’s a lot riding on this Paris trip.

Mm-hmm.

[chuckles] I’m so happy that you remember who you are. [Abigail chuckling] And who I am. That’s a plus. And that you remember how much we love each other.

Yeah. Yeah. [moaning]

Wait, Chad, Chad.

What? What? What’s wrong?

Wait, wait, wait. I– [groans softly] Oh, I can’t do this. [sighs]

But I don’t understand. If you actually have a chance at freedom, why risk it by murdering Chad?

I told you. It ain’t going to get traced back to me.

So what? You’re going to send a hitman?

[chuckles] Yes, sir.

And I’m looking right at him. [intense ominous music]

Kristen? Are you here? We need to talk! [tense music]

Sarah.

Eric! I saw that you called. I was just about to call you back.

I’m sorry I stopped by unannounced, but I needed to talk to you.

Yeah, I assume it’s about Brady. Eric, I should have–[sighs] I should have come to you after I came forward.

Listen, that’s why I’m here. I need to ask you something, and I want you to be honest with me. [suspenseful music] Is Brady innocent? Are you covering for your mother-in-law?

God, I hope Brady’s brother bought my story. Otherwise–[sighs] Actually, let’s just not think about otherwise. [ominous music]

[Fiona sighs]

Well, I should get back to Sarah. It was so good catching up with you, Julie.

Oh, yes. I’m praying for your daughter, you know.

I’m doing the same for Abigail and Chad.

Thank you. Yeah. Boy, it just galls me that all the misery in this family goes right back to Clyde Weston.

Yeah, I can’t believe that he had Abigail all this time. And we thought she was dead!

Yeah, well, he’s in supermax now, and he can’t hurt a single member of this family ever again.

Yay.

[Mark scoffs]

You want me to kill Chad?

Nothing gets past you, does it, kid?

No, I won’t do it. I can’t.

Son, the way I see it, you’ve got blood on your hands no matter what happens. You see, either Chad dies… or your mama does.

[Abigail sighing]

Chad, I have to be honest with you.

About what?

– I hate it. I hate the thought of how Chad would feel if he knew that this was all a lie, how hurt he’ll be when he finds out. Has the man not been through enough?

The reason you’re so upset is because you have a good heart, and I love you for that. Hey, this hasn’t been easy for me either. I mean, the man obviously went through hell when his wife was murdered. And now to make him think that she’s back when she’s not when she never will be back. But what’s the alternative?

There is no alternative. I mean, once I got the text from Clyde… [Mark sighs] It’s clearer now than ever. [sighs] [suspenseful music] [Abigail sighs]

[Abigail sighs] We don’t have a choice. I have to get Chad to the altar soon for his wedding number four.

They’re going to kill her. Our mother’s a dead woman.

Um… I don’t…

I don’t think it’s a good idea that we’re intimate just yet.

OK. Yeah, that’s fine. We can wait as long as you want to.

Well, I don’t want to wait that long. Um, I mean… I think there’s something that we should do first.

OK. What? [dramatic music]

Chad, what if we got married?

Recap written by Suzanne

Hope is shocked when Liam asks if they went through everything (with Beth) just to live apart. He asks her if it’s too late and whether she has someone. She replies, “Not yet,” so he thinks she means Finn. She assures him it’s not Finn. Liam misses her and wonders if they can try again. She’s really thrown. He wonders if the good in their past outweighs the bad. He assures her that he’s not the same person he was and that he’s worked hard on himself. She tells him that they’ve moved on and that he’s asking too much. They hug. Just then, Carter walks in.

Just after Brooke sees Ridge hugging Steffy, assuring her that he’ll always be there for Taylor, she wonders what he meant by that. Taylor phones just then and asks Ridge to come over to Steffy’s place. He kisses Brooke and leaves. Brooke and Steffy have another argument about Ridge and Taylor. Brooke thinks that Steffy is trying to undermine her relationship with Ridge, even though she claims she’s not trying to push her parents together. Steffy brings up Hope once again, chasing after Finn. Carter comes in just as they’re postulating that Hope should find a new man, or go back to liam. Carter doesn’t want to discuss Hope and Liam with Steffy and Brooke, so he leaves.

Taylor tells Ridge that she’s having a hard time adjusting to her new diagnosis of Broken Heart Syndrome. He urges her again to tell their kids about what’s going on, but she refuses. He assures her that he’ll be there for her, and they hold hands. Taylor tells him that she’s taking medications given to her by Paris’ mom, and they’ll have another echocardiogram in a few weeks. Ridge tells her that he’s made some calls, and he think he’s found someone to help her with her problems. Taylor shares how she’s feeling, and they hug.

Transcript provided by Suzanne

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[scoffs] Weddings.

Ooh. Practicing your Frisbee technique.

[laughs] Melinda, what are you doing here?

I’m just seeing how you’re doing since our little ordeal with that ticking time bomb known as Connie Vininski. Man, I was sure you were a goner when that place blew.

I was sure, too. But I’m doing OK, obviously. Due to be released later today, in fact.

Oh, glad to hear it. And I have to admit, Gabi, I’m not just here checking in. I have a bit of an ulterior motive. [foreboding music] ,::, [tense music]

– Bonjour, mon frere. Join me for a tipple? Oh, I know what you’re going to say– but, brother, it’s barely noon. To which I’ll reply, but it’ll help ventilate that salty, dour disposition you’ve got going on.

Unlike you. Why are you so jolly?

I’m more than jolly. I am ecstatic now that that miserable miscreant, Brady Black, is, at long last, getting his just deserts. Whoo-hoo. [sirens wailing]

So Holly’s going to go see her mom in Paris, huh?

Yeah. Just hoping that it helps Holly remind her of how close that she and Nicole have always been.

Yeah, I’m sure it will.

I don’t know. EJ, he’s been working really hard to poison Holly against her.

[scoffs] EJ. Yeah, he’s been busy doing a lot these days.

W-what do you mean?

EJ was just in here earlier discussing the plea that I’m going to enter in tomorrow’s hearing.

And?

I’m not changing my mind. I’m guilty of the crime, Eric. It’s the way I’m going to plead. [tense music]

[baby crying]

Oh, shush, shush, shush. Mummy will get it. It’s OK. Don’t cry, baby. I almost have it. [baby crying] It’s OK.

Well, that’s no excuse, is it? Get it done, now.

Ooh, my sentiments exactly.

Kristen, what the hell are you doing here?

Well, I’d just like to know, when are you going to get Brady out of jail?

How about never? Does that work for you?

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

An ulterior motive, huh? You mind telling me what that is? And what’s all that?

Just some Gabi Chic paperwork I need you to sign.

Oh, OK.

Also– and this is a little awkward because we work together– but Stefan asked me to draw up divorce papers for him.

Really?

Of course, my first loyalty is to my job at DiMera, and you are a big part of DiMera, obviously. And–

Meaning?

Meaning, if you want me to turn Stefan down, you just say the word.

Oh, yeah. You get your jollies that way, don’t you? By putting people behind bars. Well, that and sleeping with your brother’s wife, of course.

Oh, for which I am hardly culpable since she came on to me, as I’ve told you repeatedly.

Right, and you turned her down, right? Oh, no, you didn’t, because that would actually take somebody with moral fiber to do that.

Well, it’s all moot now, isn’t it, since, from what I understand, you and Gabi are well on your way to a divorce?

What do you know about that?

Oh, Gabi told me when I saw her last night. [tense music]

[baby crying] [phone ringing]

Sarah, are you all right?

Yes, I’m fine. Victoria is crying because she threw her toy, and I promised that I could get it, and I can’t.

No, well, let me help you, sweetheart. [baby crying] There you go, my little bunny. No more crying now.

Thank you. [gentle piano music]

EJ did offer a deal, a reduced sentence in exchange for a guilty plea.

How long?

Ten years.

Ten years. Brady–

No, I’m fine with it. I’m fine. Although my dad is going to be pretty depressed about it. I really think he was hoping that Justin was going to perform some kind of miracle if the thing went to trial. But honestly, brother, I don’t– I don’t want a slap on the wrist for this. I just need to pay for what I did.

What do you mean, you’re not going to get Brady out of jail?

I thought it was pretty self-explanatory.

Xander, perhaps I didn’t make myself clear the last time we spoke. The only way Sarah is going to get out of that wheelchair is if you free Brady. At which time, I will hand over Rolf’s miracle serum, and then voila, Sarah will be running the K by spring.

It’s a very intriguing proposal, Kristen. I suppose my only question is, why should I believe a word you say? [tense music]

Huh, you visited Gabi in her hospital room last night. Why?

Oh, just to inform her that her overbearing brother, Rafe Hernandez, warned me to stay away from her. I just wanted to make her aware of our little conversation, given that we all have to coexist in the same happy household. Well, at least until your divorce goes through.

Well, if I know Gabi well, and I think that I do, she wants nothing to do with you now that our marriage is over and she can’t use you anymore for revenge sex. But I would heed Rafe’s advice and stay the hell away from her.

You know, Gabi mentioned that it was you who filed for divorce.

So?

Well, if the marriage is truly over, why do I have to stay away from her? Why do you care?

Stefan told me he was going to file. We both agreed that our marriage was over, so it’s time to move forward, isn’t it? I retained counsel a while back, so he has to do the same, obviously. So–

So–

Go ahead. You can represent him. Fine by me.

It just feels so wrong sitting here with Daniel’s heart beating in my chest. I wouldn’t be here if he hadn’t have died. I guess it’s like I squandered the gift, you know.

Brady, you didn’t squander away anything. You have a future ahead of you. You’re going to be able to atone for the things that you did.

Maybe. I just don’t– I don’t feel this guilt going away anytime soon.

No, not completely. But you will learn how to live with it.

I don’t know what I would have done if you didn’t just come in right now. Everyone’s out, including the staff, because I told my mom that I could be fine on my own with Victoria, and clearly, I am not.

But you are fine, Sarah. Now, you listen to me. A tired and cranky toddler will cry and shriek and whatever else. It’s what they do. Victoria will probably throw that toy out just as many times as you’re willing to go and fetch it and give it back to her. She’s at that testing age.

I’m failing the test.

Oh, darling, you’re not failing anything. Oh, my god. If I had even a fraction of your courage, of your pluck– how you’ve carried yourself through this painful ordeal is– mostly, it’s just remarkable. Truly. I am so sorry.

What are you sorry for?

Brady and I, what a tragic mistake that was.

You couldn’t have known that that was going to happen. Fiona, Xander and I are so grateful to you for all the help that you have given during this difficult time. And I thank you for keeping your counsel about me lying to the police.

Of course. Your lie saved Brady and my son, too.

I just– I want you to know that I would have– I would have never done that. I would have never ID’d Brady to the police if I had any doubt that he was the one driving that night. I– I just– I wish that I could remember seeing him behind the wheel. I do. [tense music] I’m sorry, did–

Oh, no, no, no. It’s OK. It’s saddens me what happened. It just saddens me terribly.

Yeah. [sniffles] I think she’s finally asleep.

Yes, she is.

Fiona, I don’t mean to be rude, but I think that I just need a little bit of time alone with my daughter to prove to myself that I can– I can do this and potentially much more.

Yeah. Are you sure?

Yeah, I am.

All right. I’ll see you later then. And as you, my little darling.

[sobbing]

Are you insane? I’m not going to let my wife be used as Dr. Rolf’s Guinea pig.

Don’t you think you should let her make her own decision?

Listen to me, Kristen. I’m not going to let Sarah get her hopes up about some mystical potion that, at best, might be ineffective, and at worst, God knows, especially when I don’t know if it even exists.

Oh, trust me, Xander, it does exist. Rolf has been working on it round the clock. And I spoke with him this morning, and it’s just about ready.

And I should trust you why?

Look, I know that Dr. Rolf is rather eccentric, ethically dubious at times, but the man is a genius. And he already used a related drug on Kayla and Kate and Marlena and Bo. And he kept my brother Stefan alive for years without a heart. So, for God’s sake, Xander–

Fine. If it is as you say it is, take me to the man’s lab. Show me the proof.

Take you to the– so what, you can get your thugs and bust in, appropriate the drug without giving yours truly what I deserve? I don’t think so, Xander. But here’s what I will do for you. I will provide you with clinical data. Sarah can look it over and make her own decision, but you have to make sure that the charges against Brady go poof and disappear.

How the hell am I supposed to do that?

How do you think, Xander? Brady was free and clear until your wife made her bogus statement that he was the one behind the wheel.

It was not bogus.

She’s going to have to recant. You do understand.

I can’t ask her to do that.

You’re going to have to ask her because if you don’t, she’ll never walk again, and it will be your fault. [tense music]

You know, EJ, Gabi and I might be through, but I still care about her. And I will not have her yoked to an ass like you.

Mm. But that’s not your jurisdiction anymore, now, is it? At any rate, we all have to live together somehow, civilly, at least until she wrests the home from you and some of your other assets.

It’s not going to happen.

No?

No.

You do know that divorces can get quite nasty, messy? Ugh.

Yeah, I do. But Gabi and I talked. And we both feel that this has already gotten out of hand enough. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if she never showed up in this house…

again.

[twangy music]

Ten years.

Well, apparently, Brady’s OK with it. He feels strongly.

He wants to pay for the price for what he did. I know.

And I know you’re hoping there is more to it.

I’m not just hoping, Dad.

What do you mean?

I know there’s more. I am convinced that there’s more to it.

I thought you were at the office.

Sarah, there’s something we need to– sweetheart, what is it? Tell me.

It’s– honestly, it’s nothing. Victoria threw her toy, and I couldn’t reach it. And she was crying, and I was just this big ball of stress. And thank god that your mom came in when she did because–

Sarah, I’m so sorry.

I hated it. I hated it. I felt so helpless, like I couldn’t be a mother to my own daughter, and I–

Hey, don’t you dare say that. You’re the best mom that Victoria could ever ask for.

I don’t want this. I don’t want a pep talk. I really don’t. [gentle piano music]

I shouldn’t have even let myself get this upset, like, over what, a toy on the ground? I– plenty of parents with disabilities raise children, and they manage, so I just– It’s a fact of life now for me. I am disabled, and there’s nothing I can do about it, so–

Darling, that’s not necessarily true.

Fiona.

Hello, Brady.

Hello. I didn’t expect to see you. The last time I saw you, I thought it was goodbye.

I know what I said that day, but things are different now.

Different how?

When we spoke last time, I thought you were going to be a free man. But since Sarah identified you as the hit-and-run driver, it looks as though you’re going to prison, for a lengthy stay at that.

How does that change anything?

Well, because– [tense music] –I have a confession to make.

Wait, did you say she would never– [laughs] sorry, sorry, sorry. My brother is once again colossally wrong.

Wrong about what?

Ah, never mind that. How did you– how did you get here? I take it you were–

Discharged. I took a taxi.

Oh, well, you should have called. I would have had Harold come and pick you up. Or better yet, I would have grabbed you myself.

Yeah, well, I know you have a busy schedule.

Busier than I’d like. Sometimes busier than I’d like. Speaking of which, I am late for a meeting, so– [chuckles] –if you’ll excuse me.

So.

So.

How are you?

Hanging in there. Although I’m a little thrown, I admit, by my last visitor before I left the hospital.

Who was that?

Melinda Trask. She told me you hired her.

I needed a lawyer.

I get that. But isn’t it kind of unusual to hire corporate counsel as a family attorney?

I want somebody in my corner who I can trust.

Oh, you trust her? I see. I guess it helps that she’s got a little schoolgirl crush on you, doesn’t it?

Look, Gabi, this is–

Oh, yeah, ’cause you know Melinda will really go to the mat for you, make sure I don’t take you for everything you’re worth, right?

Is that still what you’re planning on doing, Gabi?

Did you say a serum from Dr. Rolf?

Sarah, I know it sounds pretty risky and more than a little, I don’t know, woo-woo, but–

A little?

Just hear me out, Sarah. Kristen gave me the data touting this drug’s efficacy.

Really? There’s data? Is it written in Comic Sans?

Look, I understand your misgivings, but it seems like the real deal, and you can totally go over all this data yourself.

Mm-hmm. But, Xander, why? [tense music] Why is Kristen willing to help us this way?

Well, there is just one catch.

Oh, you mean besides injecting myself with an experimental drug cooked up by a ponytailed madman? I can’t wait to hear this.

Sarah.

OK, sorry. OK. OK. I’m being negative. What’s the catch?

Kristen won’t give us the serum, unless we–

Go on. Unless we what?

Unless you disavow your positive identification of Brady.

Excuse me?

Look, Sarah, I’m sorry. I know that I’m the reason you felt you had to lie to the police in the first place. And I hate putting you through all these contortions, but what if this thing works? What if it could heal you? Wouldn’t it be worth it to walk again, to run again, to play with Victoria?

I– I– I need to think about it.

Of course. It’s just, this is a limited-time offer. Brady’s plea hearing is tomorrow. But I can call EJ right now to come and take your statement. Just say the word.

Look, Eric, I know how much you really want to believe that, by some miracle, your brother isn’t responsible for Sarah’s accident, but–

Dad, it’s more than that. I’m telling you, there’s something. It’s just not adding up.

Like what?

Like Sarah suddenly remembering that she saw Brady at the wheel, even though hypnosis couldn’t break through whatever mental blocks she had?

Isn’t it possible it just came to her?

No. Not according to Mom. She said that it would be exceedingly rare without a triggering incident. And also Jada.

Go on.

Well, Jada, when Jada came to arrest Brady, Xander was there in his room.

Xander was there? How’d he get in? Was the door unlocked?

He said it was, but I spoke to Tate, who swore that he locked it behind him.

So Xander broke in somehow?

He must have. But, Dad, I’m telling you, Brady was adamant that he hadn’t been drinking before Tate tucked him to bed.

OK, so what are you thinking?

I’m thinking he must have been drugged.

Drugged? Damn.

Dad, but listen, the whole point of the story is that it just seems off somehow.

Oh, I agree.

OK, let’s keep all that in mind. Yesterday, I saw Sarah in the park talking to her mother-in-law, Fiona.

And?

I overheard them talking about some kind of secret they were keeping. And since I know Fiona and Brady were in a relationship–

Wait a minute. I had no idea.

Yeah, it was brief, apparently. And it’s been over for a while now. But is it possible that somehow–

That somehow what?

Somehow, Fiona is connected to the accident.

Well, yeah, I suppose it could be, I mean, if they were in a relationship at that time.

And they were.

So you’re thinking it’s possible that Xander’s mom was with Brady that night, and that’s the secret that she and Sarah are keeping?

That’s exactly what I’m thinking.

Easy way to find out. Ask Brady.

Dad, I could, but he doesn’t remember a lot about that night. I have another idea. [dramatic music]

You have a confession?

As you well know, when I first came to Salem, I sold my son a bill of goods. I told him I was sober, for one thing. It was the only way that he was going to accept me back into his life. And it’s the only reason that I got to know my beautiful granddaughter, Victoria, and Sarah, too, which has brought me so much joy. [melancholy music]

But watching Sarah suffer firsthand, it’s made me realize, Brady, I can’t keep– [door opens]

Who the hell are you, and what are you doing here? [tense music]

[tense music] * *

Well, I’m certainly well within my rights, as I’m sure you know, to take as much of the DiMera fortune as I can get. As I told you when we last saw each other, more than anything, I just want this to be over with. You said the same. There’s nothing left to fight for.

Right. I did. So what are you doing here, Gabi?

I didn’t come to see you. If I had known you were here, I’d have waited.

I came to collect my things.

So you– you’re going to–

Moving out, for good.

Um…

Just give me a few minutes, and you can tell Melinda that I will be out of your hair, OK?

Yeah. Yeah. Sure. [sniffles]

This better be good, Xander. I was supposed to be in a meeting minutes ago.

Oh, it’s very important. I want to talk to you about the Brady Black case.

Oh, well, I wanted to discuss that with you as well. I have some brilliant news on that front, actually.

What is it?

Well, Brady and I worked out a little plea deal– years. Look, I know. I know you wanted more. So did I, but you never know what a jury might do. This, at least, guarantees Brady will be where he belongs, locked up in prison.

I wouldn’t be too sure about that. [tense music]

Kristen, this is Xander’s mother, Fiona Cook. Fiona, meet Kristen DiMera, Rachel’s mother.

Mm. Yes. I remember seeing a picture of you in the paper a while ago. And what are you doing here?

I was just about to tell Brady how trying it’s been to witness my daughter-in-law’s suffering as a result of his gross negligence. I’m glad he’s going to pay. Goodbye, Brady.

I don’t believe the nerve of that woman. I mean, what is her business coming in here being all high and mighty and saying those horrible things to you?

Kristen, you shouldn’t be here, either.

Ah, but I bring glad tidings, Mr. Black. You are getting out of here, and soon. [chuckles] [jazzy music]

Excuse me, can I talk to you for a second?

Sure thing. What can I do for you, pal?

Yeah, I was wondering if you’ve seen a certain person in here.

I see a lot of people in here, but I have to say, I don’t really get involved in personal stuff.

I understand. Do you happen to recognize this guy? Yeah, he’s my brother, actually.

Hard to forget that face.

Why is that?

Like I said, I don’t normally stick my nose in my customers’ business, but this guy, he was in here getting hammered one night, acting like a total jackass, looking for a fight.

All right, do you happen to remember what night that was?

I sure do. It was the night he went out and ran over that poor doctor.

So you were working that night? Well, if he was so intoxicated, why didn’t you stop him from leaving? That lady said she had it under control.

What lady? [tense music]

Is that really everything? It can’t be.

I asked Harold if he could send the rest.

Mm. So where are you– where are you going to stay, with Rafe, or–

If your lawyer needs to get in touch, I see her at the espresso machine every morning at work.

Yeah, that’s not why I was asking. I was just wondering because– [chuckles] Never mind. [clears throat] Anyway– [gentle music]

I thought we said our last goodbye yesterday.

Yeah, me too.

[chuckles] Don’t worry, Stefan. [chuckles] This will be the last time.

Yeah.

En otra vida, mi querido.

– En otra vida.

OK.

Kristen, whatever you’re thinking about doing, don’t do it, OK? Don’t. I know you want to help, OK, but the fact is, I’m pleading guilty tomorrow. And I’m going to be in prison for ten years.

Au contraire,Brady. It’s not going to get that far.

What do you mean? If you’re thinking about hurting Sarah in any way, Kristen–

I’m not going to hurt Sarah. Brady, Brady, Brady, absolutely not. Truth is, I mean, she is going to be on her knees thanking me when this is all done.

Why would she do that, Kristen?

Oh, you’ll see. [tense music]

God.

What do you mean Brady might not be going to prison?

Of course, we still want to see him punished for his crimes, EJ. It’s just, unfortunately–

Unfortunately what?

Sarah is no longer confident in the statement she gave to the police.

Is that so, Sarah?

It is. Yeah, I’m– I’m not sure that it was Brady driving that night.

Well, you seemed pretty damn sure when you called Detective Hunter to say, yes, it was definitely Brady.

Yeah, I–I–I was. I was. But honestly, now that I’ve had time to think about it, the image really isn’t very clear, so I don’t know. Maybe I dreamed it.

Dreamed it.

Mm-hmm.

Really?

Yeah. Yeah. I mean, possibly. I just– maybe because I just wanted to believe it.

Look, it’s probably worth mentioning that Sarah has been taking a cocktail of pain medications and muscle relaxants, et cetera, so her thinking has, no doubt, become a little bit muddled.

All right, all right, all right. Muddled thinking aside, what exactly are you both saying?

Well, what I’m saying is, I– I would like to recant my statement. [tense music]

Like hell you will.

Oh, right here. Was this the woman who was with my brother that night? [jazzy music]

Yep, that’s the one.

Do you happen to remember if they left together?

Oh, yeah, they sure did.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

So after Faith falls into the shark tank, I’m gonna have to figure out a way for Arrow to rescue her.

Going somewhere?

Well, yeah. I’m just headed to work.

Oh, you’re going to work, because you have a job, unlike yours truly.

Listen, Hattie–

Hey, save it, Judas. Thanks to you, I am out on my adorable ass.

Wow, would you look at that?

“To the executive producers of ‘Body & Soul.'”

Wow, We have fans already. [chuckles] Who’s that from?

Not signed.

It’s from me, you adorable people. It’s a thank-you for saving my life.

Whoa.

Whoa. ,::,

[giggles] [soft jazzy music]

Ah.

Good morning, Dr. Johnson.

Good morning, Seth. Can I do something for you?

You’ve already done it. As you know, I had, uh– initially had doubts about shooting “Body & Soul” here. And as it turns out, wow. It’s been a fun experience so far. Exciting, uplifting.

Right. Well, um, I did think it’d be a good thing for the hospital.

Oh, I wasn’t talking about the hospital. I was talking about me. I think I’ve been bitten by the acting bug.

Now, this is how I like to start my day.

Mm. Yeah, me too. You know, Chanel, I’m sorry we fought. You know, I–I– I know there’s no reason for me to be jealous of Alex.

You sure about that? [tense music]

Alex? What are you doing here?

What do you think I’m doing here, Johnny? I’m here to make mad, passionate love to your wife.

No, no, no. Stop! Stop it! I said stop it! [gasps]

Honey, what’s wrong?

Oh, Jada, I’m so happy to hear that Rafe is home. [chuckles] Well, I am not surprised that he is not the most cooperative patient, although I have no doubt that you can keep him in line. With me and Alex? Oh, nothing to report on that front. I didn’t even see him on set yesterday. [knocking on door] Well, it’s probably for the best. Like I told you, Alex just wants to be friends, and I am totally fine with that. [soft dramatic music]

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Jada, I have to go. There is someone at my door. Right, right. Yeah, talk soon.

I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to interrupt.

No, it’s okay. Come on in.

Thank you. [sighs]

Uh, Jada was just giving me an update on Rafe. He is home from the hospital.

Really? That’s great news.

I know, right? [chuckles] So what brings you by?

I just thought maybe you’d like a latte. I grabbed one for myself, and I figured to maybe bring one by for my buddy next door– pumpkin spice.

Oh, my favorite.

Yeah.

How nice to live across the hall from a man who can anticipate my needs.

Well, I just know how much we both appreciate our morning caffeine fix, so– sorry, I’m a little sweaty. I, uh, hit the gym this morning. I was trying to, you know, get the endorphins going, trying to work off some of these nerves.

Oh. Why? Are you shooting today?

Yes, I am. Big love scene with Chanel.

Here you go.

Thanks.

Mm-hmm. So you were yelling “stop it” in your sleep. Bad dream, I assume?

Yeah, yeah.

Wanna tell me about it?

Not really.

Oh, come on. [tense music]

Fine. Uh… it was about you and Alex.

Okay.

Yeah, yeah. He got into bed with us, said it was time to tape your sex scene. He started making out with you while I watched.

Oh, ugh. Johnny, I’m so sorry you had that dream. But I guess it kind of makes sense since you’re going to be directing our love scene today.

Right. And look, Chanel, I know that–that you’ve been a little upset with me for my jealousy issues. And I also know that I can’t let my own irrational feelings get in the way of me doing my job. Hey, it’s just that when I see you guys together like I did at the photo shoot, it– it brings back these images to me of you and him actually together. Like, for real.

Okay, Johnny, I keep telling you this, but this time, could you please just try and believe me, okay?

Yes.

Okay. I’m gonna tell you this one more time. And I hope that this is the last time that I have to tell you. Alex and I– there are no feelings, okay? I have no feelings for Alex. That time that he and I and Allie were together– that is in the past. And unlike you, I never think about that anymore, okay? He and I are just co-workers now and friends.

Friends?

I thought we were friends, Leo. At least we were– we were “Drag Race” buddies.

We still are. In fact, I just loaded up on pork rinds for our next “Drag Race” binge.

You know what? You can forget about any of those. I’m–I’m–swearing off pork rinds. I think they’re leaving me bloated.

They are. What about jelly beans or plant-based jerky?

Ugh, yuck!

Okay, look, Hattie, I know that you’re upset.

Upset? Upset? My so-called friend writes me off the show I was starring in? That show was gonna get me a Daytime Emmy.

But I didn’t write you off. It wasn’t me.

Oh, because I thought you were the head writer.

Look, I’m just a hired gun.

Oh, that shot me in the back.

No, no, it wasn’t my call. The producers are the ones who make those decisions. Look, I would have loved for Charlemagne Delacroix to remain on the show. She is an amazing character to write. In fact, I am in full-blown mourning over her impending death.

Yeah, well, tell your problems to somebody else. I’m the one who’s kicking the bucket without any notice at all.

Okay, that was not my call, either. I wanted to tell you, Hattie. I did.

Why didn’t you?

Because–

Why didn’t you?

Because… Abe and Kate were worried that if you knew about being fired, you would leave the set without finishing your scenes, and then we’d all be screwed and out of work.

Oh. Out of work, just like me. I kind of like the sound of that. [bright acoustic music]

Okay. [chuckles] Okay, maybe I went a little overboard saying you saved my life because it was actually Kassandra’s life you saved. It’s just that I feel like she’s such a part of me now, you know? And when I heard that Kassandra was buying the farm, well, Bonnie Kiriakis– she was putting down the down payment. And I know it sounds a little wackadoodle, but I swear to God, it’s the truth. It’s like Kassandra and me– we were definitely separated at birth, you know?

Yeah, right.

I read the script, and I saw that I was gonna be a goner– especially the way too. It was so creepy. It was flesh-eating disease. Ugh! But now none of that matters because my hunky son brought me that miracle cure. Thank God. [chuckles] And now Hattie’s gonna get the ax instead. Speaking of which, um– [clears throat] Now that Charlemagne is dead, I mean, um, like, all her stuff’s gonna be up for grabs, right? [light jazzy music]

Her stuff?

Well, yeah, like her clothes. Oh, and, um, her mansion. Oh, you know what? I know. Kassandra could buy Charlemagne’s mansion from her grief-stricken husband. Oh, no, better yet, I could get the grief-stricken husband. Yeah, see, he could be all sad and lonely. And then Kassandra could come along and make him realize that she was his type more so than Charlemagne ever was, or something like that. And then she would make him forget about his nasty, dead wife. And they would live happily ever after, right? It’s good, right? I know it’s good. I should pitch this to Leo, right? Right? Am I right? I’m right, right? Oh, come on, right?

Better yet, forget about Charlemagne’s sloppy seconds. I could marry Thrust. And then I would be heir to the Manning fortune, and I could run Manning Enterprises!

Okay. Just hold on, madam CEO, because you are not going to be controlling anything anytime soon. You are not going to be marrying Thrust. You are not going to be getting Charlemagne’s mansion or her gowns, which you would just turn into matching outfits for you and your Schnauzer.

But Muffy is a Shi Tzu.

Muffy is Kassandra’s off-camera dog. No one’s ever seen Muffy. No one cares what breed she is. So you, my dear, need to listen up. “Body & Soul” is an ensemble production. When Hattie didn’t respect that, we had no choice but to buy her a one-way ticket to soap opera heaven.

Well, don’t you think Charlemagne actually went to someplace a little hotter?

Either way, I’m sure she would love to have Kassandra join her there. [tense jazzy music]

Got it. [chuckles] No, really, I’m just a– I got–I mean, uh, “Body & Soul” is not a one-star vehicle. And I just, ah, went a little overboard. I’m really sorry. I’m sorry.

It’s okay, Bonnie.

[clears throat]

Just remember, now and into the future, that “Body & Soul” has no stars. We all–we all work together in harmony.

With a modicum of humility.

Oh, of course. No, I got it. I got it. I would never want to be like Hattie. I mean, she doesn’t even know the meaning of the word humility– or modicum. [chuckles] [clears throat] Actually, I don’t know the meaning of modicum either, but I’m guessing it means a little.

It does. Kind of. But I think we should aim for more than a little.

I promise. I will. [chuckles] Again, I–[stammers] Although I was thinking, you know, now that Hattie is uh, gone, I’m sure you have a little extra cash, and I thought maybe I could have a little raise. Oh, or maybe not. [chuckles] I know. It’ll be fine. So I know you guys got a lot of work to do, so I’m gonna leave you at it. And, uh, enjoy the fruit. It’s fabulous. You’re fabulous. I’m just gonna head on out. Sayonara. See you later. Love you all. Toodles! [door shuts]

So they wrote you in another scene for today.

Yeah, the producers were apparently impressed with my performance yesterday. I mean, who knew I was a gifted thespian, right?

Well, you are obviously a man of many talents.

Well, I won’t give up my day job just yet, but since we’re talking about my budding acting career, Kayla, if you have any influence with the BS producers, maybe you can let them know I wouldn’t be adverse to a romantic interest, maybe a love scene or two. Yeah.

So you’re shooting your love scene with Chanel today?

Mm-hmm.

I thought you were talking to Kate about putting it off.

Yeah. And we did talk to her, but apparently there’s been too many actors asking for so many script changes that now Kate is afraid to ask Leo to do any more rewrites. So unfortunately, the scene cannot be postponed. And it’s a go.

Hmm. You must be disappointed.

I am disappointed. I mean, like I said, it’s just happening too soon. Faith and Arrow’s character shouldn’t be sleeping together this fast. It’s like rushing the whole story, you know?

Yeah. No, I get why you think that.

Yeah.

Well, how do you feel playing opposite Chanel in general? I mean, since you two don’t seem to get along, right?

Uh, actually, it’s not that much of an issue anymore. Chanel and I–we just decided to call a truce. And we thought that it would be best if now that we’re working together, we, you know, just try and start fresh.

Well, that’s very mature of you.

I know. Thank you.

Yeah. [laughs]

Thank you. And now that this whole huge love scene is happening today, I’m just praying that we can get through it without any problems.

Well, I’m sure you’ll be fine, since, obviously, you and Chanel have worked things out.

Yeah.

But how does Johnny feel about all this? [tense music]

I–I thought you and Alex couldn’t stand each other. Now all of a sudden, you’re friends?

Okay, what’s so shocking about that? I mean, we obviously have to work together, so we decided that it would make things a little less awkward if we just got along.

Okay. Okay. Yeah, you know what? You’re right. You’re right. The less backstage drama, the better.

Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah, there’s gonna be enough drama on screen.

Right.

Mm-hmm.

You know what? Speaking of which, we should probably get a move on. I don’t want to be late for rehearsals.

Yeah, yeah. I got to run, too, because Alex and I are gonna run those hospital scenes before we get started.

Hospital scenes? I thought–I thought all the hospital scenes were between, uh, Alex– I mean, uh, Arrow and his mom.

Yeah, it starts with the mom in the bed. And then Faith and Arrow end up–

Oh, no, right. Yep, yep, got it. How could I forget? Um, well, that’s great. I–I need to get to set anyway because we’re shooting Charlemagne’s death scenes first, which I have a feeling is going to be a little tricky.

[chuckles]

The way I see it, Leo, is that you are an accomplice after the fact of getting my character killed off.

What? How’s that?

How’s that? You know exactly how that is. Look, I’m just feeling kind of tricked and duped, you know, because I thought–you know, when I read the script, I thought that Bonnie was the one being killed off.

That’s because I thought it would be more of a shock to the audience. And we both know that shocking the audience equals a rise in ratings if they thought that Kassandra was not long for the world, only to have Charlemagne give up the ghost instead.

Well, that’s very clever of you and very hurtful, Leo. I mean, you killed me off before I even had a chance to have a week under contract. And, I mean, I was– I was kind of thinking that maybe I would– I would get a Daytime Emmy nomination, at least have a fan club started. You– Do you know how that makes me feel? [sobs]

I’m really sorry, Hattie. I am. I hate that things turned out this way. But, um– look on the bright side.

The bright side? You mean that I don’t have a job, and I’m a loser?

Oh, come on. Don’t talk like that. You are a winner, Hattie. You’re a total babe. You are charming and spirited. And even when you are bloated on pork rinds, you manage to be a whole lot of fun.

Well, right–right now, what I am is– I’m a whole lot of miffed.

I get that. Believe me, I do. But to quote the sagacious Roman Brady, “It is called show business, not show friendship.” So even though we’re not gonna be working together anymore, I really hope we can still hang out.

Let me think. No. No. I don’t want to watch the drag show with you anymore. And I don’t want to eat pork rinds with you anymore. I just–I just– I want–if you see me coming down the street, I want you to go the other way. Because if you don’t, Leo, I. Will. End. You. [scoffs] [bright acoustic music]

Hey, I’m hoping Johnny will be cool with, you know, directing my love scene with Chanel. And I even suggested to the guy that if he feels uncomfortable, maybe we could hire another director to shoot just those scenes.

And he didn’t go for that idea?

No, no. He wants to prove that he’s Mr. Professional.

Right. Well, good for him. And I hope it all works out.

Yeah, fingers crossed. Anyway, I should probably go get cleaned up. I really don’t wanna make Chanel work too hard at trying to act like she’s attracted to me.

We certainly wouldn’t want that. [chuckles]

Right. I’ll see you.

Hey, do you want a ride to set?

No, you don’t have to do that.

Oh, consider it a thank-you for the latte.

All right, then. Fair enough. I’ll be back in a little bit. I really do need a shower.

Yeah. [chuckles] I could use a cold shower myself. Hmm.

Hey, Leo. I’m glad you’re here. I was just reading over your long story. And unfortunately, we don’t have the budget for a shark tank. We’re gonna have to scale down. How do you feel about goldfish bowl?

That’s fine. [tense music]

I was expecting a fight. Something wrong?

I’m just hating on myself, feeling like a bad friend and a rotten, insubstantial person in general, confirming everything my mother thinks about me, even though she’s all of those things, which is probably why I’m this way since she passed down half of her putrid DNA to me.

Okay, do you think you could just possibly tell me what you’re upset about?

I ran into Hattie. She blames me for killing her off, even though I said it was your and Abe’s idea.

Oh. Well, thanks for that.

And I get the feeling that Hattie has a PhD in grudge holding. And she can be spiteful and vindictive. Well, it’s more than a feeling. Her last words to me were, “You better watch out because I will get you.”

Whoa. [chuckles] Well, I’m sure at some point she’ll calm down.

Yeah, maybe when we’re all killed off in real life, like at the turn of the nd century.

Oh, come on. Really? It’ll be sooner than that. I’ll tell you what. They are about to tape the death scene as we speak. Do you wanna watch it on the monitor?

[sighs] No, I’m too verklempt to even think about it.

Okay, everyone, we are shooting item today. Abe, I wasn’t expecting to see you on set today.

Yeah, well, you know, I thought it would be best to have one of the producers here on set for Hattie’s death scene.

Hmm.

Just in case.

Right. Yeah, good call.

Mm.

Okay. Can I please get background set, and I need a Dr. Lamoray.

Blake Lamoray, M.D., at your service.

Fantastic. You’re gonna be over there. And, Kassandra, you are also gonna be over there. Now, we just need a Charlemagne. [ominous music] Charlemagne? Charlemagne?

Charlemagne. Charlemagne. Where are you?

[winces]

Chanel. Chanel, are you all right?

Uh, no, not really. I think I threw my back out.

Oh, well, here, let me check it out. Oh, dear.

[winces]

What happened?

Uh, I was, um– I came over to go to the hospital with Johnny. And when we got there, I was supposed to rehearse with Alex, but I had a little bit of time, so I decided to stop by Sweet Bits and check in.

Well, did you lift anything heavy?

No, I wish. Then I’d feel a little less stupid. I was cutting through the park on my way back to the hospital. And I bent down to tie my shoe. And then I just– I felt this nasty twinge in my back.

I don’t think it’s anything serious. I think you might have pulled a muscle.

Ah. That’s good because I have to get to set. I have a big scene with Alex. [groans]

You know what? I think what you need to do is rest a little bit, okay? Last I checked, you have some time before the scene, okay? [suspenseful jazz music]

Thanks for giving me a ride. Now I can get in that extra rehearsal time with Chanel.

Not a problem. And I will go check and see what they’re shooting now.

All right. I’ll see you. Oh, damn. [sighs]

What is it?

Chanel’s running late. Damn it. Oh, my God, I just wanted to run through our scenes a few times. That way, I was off book before blocking, you know? I don’t suppose you’d wanna run some lines with me?

Uh, sure. I mean, production probably doesn’t need me right this minute, so yeah. I, um–I don’t have a script, though.

That’s all right. Take mine. I’m supposed to have these all memorized by now, anyway.

Um, okay, so start–

You’re gonna start right here where Faith says–

“Oh, Arrow, I just heard the news about your mother.”

Yeah.

Mm-hmm. Okay.

All right, let’s do this.

Hey, have either of you seen Hattie Adams?

No.

Mm-mm.

Could Hattie have just left?

No idea.

Talk about unprofessional.

Okay, Hattie’s not in her dressing room, and no one in the green room has seen her either.

Well, that’s just what I was afraid of. So how are we going to shoot Hattie’s death without Hattie?

Did I hear my name? Geez, this place is like a maze. Anybody ever thought that maybe they could– they could paint each floor a different color?

Yeah, we’ll take that under advisement.

Okay, great. Everyone, we have our Charlemagne. So let’s–let’s–let’s go. [soft tense music]

Would you stop looking at me like that? For Pete sakes, it’s not like I asked them to kill you off. Not that you weren’t thrilled that they were willing to kill off Kassandra in a miserable death so you could be the star of the show.

Can we can just get this show going, please?

You know, these scenes that they’re shooting today were really, really well written, Leo.

[sighs] Yeah. Well, as horrible as Hattie feels about being written off and as rotten as I feel that she now hates me with a vengeance, at least she’s going out with a bang.

Yeah, pretty dramatic exit.

It sure is. And I would love to take credit for the idea, but I can’t. See, I knew that I had to come up with a fitting ending for one of Pineview’s leading ladies, but we’re so pressed for time that I remembered how they got rid of a very memorable character on “L.A. Law.” [intriguing music]

And…action.

Kassandra.

Charlemagne.

I must say, then, in all the years of wishing each other dead… I do–I do celebrate your survival.

You and me both. And I must say that I do admire your generosity of spirit, Charlemagne, but even more so the medical prowess of Dr. Lamoray here, who administered the miracle serum that saved my life.

Today, we’ve all witnessed a miracle.

Yes, of course, we all agree with that. I was wondering–since you’ve been fortunate enough to have a second chance, I was wondering if perhaps you and I could have a second chance.

What are you saying, Charlemagne?

Well, I’m wondering, Kassandra, if you and I could wipe the slate clean.

Well, I think that’s a brilliant idea. Truce? Truce?

Truce.

Uh, okay, Hattie. Go ahead and press the button to the elevator now.

So there was this character in “L.A. Law.” Her name was Rosalind Shays. And she’s just, you know, standing there and talking to Leland, turns to get on the elevator, and splat.

Whoa.

Yeah, that was the end of that. [ominous music] [elevator dings]

Okay, Hattie, now you–you turn. You wave to Kassandra and step in. Hattie, go on. Step into the elevator.

Any better?

Not really. But I don’t wanna hold up production, so I need to get to the hospital.

I agree. But not to the set. I am taking you to the ER.

What about my scenes with Alex?

They can wait. Come on, doctor’s orders. Let’s go. Nice and easy. Nice and easy.

[sighs]

Okay. Okay. [soft dramatic music]

All right, Steph, that’s your cue.

Arrow, I just heard the news about your mother. Oh, no. Am I too late? Is Kassandra…dead?

No. My mother is right down the hall right now getting a life-saving serum made from a begonia that I found in the jungles of Iguaza.

What?

Against all odds, I brought back a flower that can cure my mother’s disease and save her life.

Oh, Arrow, how heroic, how brave.

It’s a miracle. I thought I was gonna lose my precious mother, but she’s gonna live, Faith.

Oh, thank God.

And all this has just made me realize… life is short. [sultry music] Our time here on Earth is precious.

What are you saying, Arrow?

I’m saying that if you’ve found the person that you love, you mustn’t squander… a single second of that precious time.

Wow. [panting] This is gonna be some love scene, huh?

Yeah, it is.

[moans]

Hattie, you need to get onto the elevator.

I can’t.

Why not?

Well, there’s–there’s no– there’s no elevator there to get onto.

Yeah, that’s the point. You’re supposed to fall down the shaft.

Well, that’s easy for you to say. I’m the one taking the great leap into the beyond.

Hattie, it’s perfectly safe. It’s only three feet deep. And you have an air mattress to fall on. Two, two. [soft dramatic music]

That’s not it.

What is it?

I’d–it’s just– it’s just that I don’t– I don’t wanna die.

An elevator shaft. I thought I remembered that.

Yeah, I’m not the first person to pay homage to that scene. In the ‘s, there was a sitcom. I can’t remember the name of it. Anyway, there was an actor on that show, and he didn’t want to get on the elevator because he knew he was being killed off, just like Hattie.

But come on, Hattie, you can do this, okay? You’re a professional actor.

Yes. Yes, I am. I–I am a professional actor.

Okay, then. So let’s just, uh–we’ll take it back from the handshake and maybe try it this time a little less gripping, okay?

[clears throat] Okay. And action.

Kassandra, why don’t you come with me?

What?

Come with me. I–I’d like to buy you a drink, or two, or three to celebrate our truce.

I’m on an IV. [elevator dings]

Doctor, maybe you should get that elevator because I–I think I heard them paging you to go down one floor.

Um, I’m not gonna do that. I’m gonna stay here and monitor Ms. Lovegood’s vitals. That elevator is just for you.

Okay, Hattie, get on now. Hattie, that’s your cue.

No. No. I–I won’t do it.

Cut. Let’s go again.

No, we’re not going again. I’m not doing that again. Look, you can kill off my character if that’s what you wanna do. I can’t stop you from doing that. But my God, I will not help you do it.

[bright acoustic music]

Bonnie, how’d it go on set today? Did Hattie take the plunge?

No, she refused to do the stunt.

Oh, no. Well, if she didn’t go down the elevator shaft, how did they end the scene?

They didn’t. They had to end early. See, that moody diva just stormed off the set in a huff. Mm-hmm.

So Hattie just stormed off the set, huh?

Afraid so.

So what are we gonna do?

There they are, my two favorite backstabbers.

Okay, if you’re here for your paycheck, people who break their contract do not get paid.

Why don’t you keep your money? I don’t want anything from you two traitors. In fact, I think I’m gonna blow this one-horse town.

Oh, Hattie.

Really? Really? You’re gonna regret the day you crossed me. [scoffs] I’m gonna make sure you pay for it. I’m gonna make sure that you are–that you are cursed.

Oh, come off it.

And everything that comes along with this production, from the–from the offices to the cast, and the staff, and the crew. Yeah. In fact, I think I’ll even make sure that Pineview goes up in flames. [soft dramatic music]

[groaning] First day of shooting, and it’s like we’re cursed. I think I’m doing better now, though. Could–could you please help me over to the hospital room set?

No one would expect you to do your scenes in this condition. I’m gonna call Abe and Kate and let them know that you’re gonna call in sick.

What? No.

Yes, I’m gonna give you an anti-inflammatory. You’ll be much better by tomorrow.

But my scene with Alex.

Well, it’s gonna have to wait. I’m sorry. There’s gonna be no love scene today.

Uh, I don’t think you wanna go in there.

Why not?

Well, Arrow and Faith– they got a little carried away.

What do you mean?

I poked my head in there a little while ago. And at first, I thought, oh, they’re rehearsing. But then I realized they were… [tense music] In a steamy love scene for real.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

I hope this isn’t a bad time now.

No, it’s fine. It’s fine. But since when does the DA make house calls?

He does when it’s a personal matter.

Oh. What’s this?

A signed statement from my brother. As you’ll see, Stefan is not going to be a problem anymore. [dramatic music]

[siren wailing]

You brought me flowers?

No. One of the nurses asked me to bring them to you. They were on the desk, and… well, no one could bring them in, so…

Oh.

Oh, they’re from the assistants at Gabi Chic. “Wishing you a speedy recovery. “P.S. Sorry for what happened. “We all worried that Connie was a psycho, and we’re relieved that you’re gonna be OK.”

Great. Everyone could see how insane that woman was except me. So…what are you doing here?

I just… wanted to let you know that I– I just spoke to my lawyer.

Your lawyer?

Yeah.

I’m filing for divorce.

Divorce?

Yeah.

Why do you seem surprised, Gabi, given the fact that you told me you were gonna take me for everything I’m worth? You divided the house into his and her halves. I’m surprised that you didn’t file first.

Yeah, well, it’s just kind of ironic, you know, since you once said you were going to fight tooth and nail for our marriage.

And yet here you are at my bedside, eager to deliver the news that you’re ending it.

Why the sudden rush to divorce me, Stefan?

[light music]

Thomas. Thomas, hold up. What’s the rush, darling?

Well, it’s getting late. My friend Gage and I are supposed to have a battle at :.

A battle?

A video game battle, you know, online.

Oh, yeah. Darling, I’m afraid you’re gonna have to tell your little friend you have to postpone today.

Why?

Because when we get home, your daddy has a very special surprise for you. And you too, Charlotte. [chuckles]

Thanks for getting here so quickly.

[sighs] Of course. I’m assuming the kids aren’t here.

No, no, no. Julie took them to Sweet Bits.

Oh, good. Great.

That’s actually why I wanted you to come by. When–when the kids get here, I want us to tell them the truth. I want to tell them that their mother’s alive. [dramatic music]

You want to tell them now that I’m alive?

Yeah, it’s time.

No, no, no. It’s not time, Chad. We can’t–no, we cannot– absolutely cannot do that.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

[light country music]

Hey, Roman.

Hi, Ava. Hey, listen, I’ve been meaning to talk to you. I’m sure you’ll see some new security cameras around, and I’m having the locks changed, so I’ll give you a new set of keys.

OK. Is this because of what happened upstairs?

Yeah, that psycho Connie. I feel really bad, what you went through.

Hey. Look, the pub is a public space, obviously, and anyone can go upstairs. There’s nothing you could have done.

Mm.

And, Roman, I know that I am still behind on my rent. And since I walked away from the job that you so graciously offered me, I’m not sure when I’m gonna be able to pay you back.

Well, I thought you just turned me down ’cause you got a better job.

Oh, well, that was then, and this is now. I mean, you’re aware of how fast things change in this town.

[laughs]

I’m not in a rush to divorce you, Gabi. I’m just thinking, what’s the point of dragging this on, of perpetuating this… pathetic game of cheating one-upmanship? [dramatic music] I’m miserable. You’re miserable. So…why not cut our losses and end things?

Fair enough. Still seems kind of sudden. Why now? Why today?

Well, because… any normal run-in with my brother will leave me running for the bar cart. And he and I got into it earlier today. And he said something that really resonated with me, even though he was probably just trying to goad me at the time.

What did he say?

That– that I’m never gonna be able to erase the image of you and him together. And he’s right.

Well, I can relate, because ever since I found out about you and Ava, those mental images, I can’t get them out of my head either.

You understand.

I do.

So then…

You also understand there’s no fixing this.

You can’t get over me and Ava. I can’t get over you and EJ. So there’s nothing left to fight for, is there?

Chad, we discussed this. We determined it is too soon for the kids to meet me. We were on the same page. What happened? What changed?

What’s changed is, it’s too important to keep putting off. The kids, they need you. They miss you. And they’ve gone long enough without you. Look, we’ve kept this under wraps long enough. And the longer we do it, the more–the more likely it is that they’re gonna find out from some rando, OK, and that would be a disaster. I think you’d agree.

I agree. Of course I do. And they’ve been through so much, but, Chad–

Look, look, I’ve kept this out of the paper. But you’re living at the mansion, all right? And there’s a ton of people that come in and out, including my niece Rachel. And if she blabs about something at school, then it’s over.

I understand that. But the mansion is huge. I have steered clear of Rachel, OK? She barely even knows I’m there.

OK, first of all, she knows a lot more than you think. We need to control what Thomas and Charlotte hear and how, OK? Which is why it’s important that we tell them and they don’t find out from someone else.

– What’s the surprise, Aunt Julie?

Well, if I told you, Thomas, it wouldn’t be a surprise anymore, would it?

Ooh, I love surprises. Hello, Mrs. Williams.

Mr. Stark.

Charlotte, Thomas, the two most adorable children on the planet.

Well, we’re really in a bit of a rush here.

You know, when I used to work for your dad, he was so proud of you two. He couldn’t wait to show me photos of you two adorable bundles of joy, of which he had about million of on his phone. [light music]

Wait, you don’t work for my dad anymore?

No, I do not. Please excuse the shameless braggadocio. But now I’m the head writer of “Body & Soul,” raking in the big bucks. Soon my picture’s gonna be all over “Soap Opera Digest.”

Yes, well, we really must be on our way.

But can I ask him one more question?

One, just one.

Are you still the tooth fairy?

Um–

I’ve got a loose tooth, see? And I was wondering if I could get an advancement on my bucks.

Nice try, kid. But I’m really not a fairy after all. I mean–[laughs] Anyway, it is a lovely day. And hey, great news about your mom, huh? [dramatic music]

Mom? She’s dead. What’s so great about that?

I want to protect Thomas and Charlotte too. So of course I don’t want them finding out about me from some stranger. Of course not. But if I’m starting to remember, what is the harm in giving it a little more time?

Yeah, how much more time?

[scoffs]

A week? A month? A year?

[sighs]

I mean, every day that goes by that we don’t tell them is another day that they have to go on missing you in their lives. Our kids are smart, all right? They’re more capable of understanding than you think. OK, you know what? Forget about–forget about our children for a minute and what’s best for them and what they need. What do you need? [dramatic music] What do you want? I mean, what do you want, Abby? Like, I mean, aren’t you tired of being a virtual prisoner in my father’s mausoleum, avoiding us? And don’t you want your life back?

You have no idea how much.

OK, when you remembered our vows, right, I naively expected the floodgates to just open.

And they didn’t.

Yeah.

They didn’t just open magically, Chad. And you were terribly disappointed.

Yeah, sure. But I was also a little bit encouraged because what brought that memory back was something very specific. It was when I showed you our wedding album. So maybe, just maybe, seeing our children will bring your memories back of them. I mean, have you even thought of that?

I think that this is what’s best for them and for me…and for you.

So let’s tell them the truth, Abby. Yeah, it’s time.

What are you talking about, Leo? There’s no news about Abigail. [light music]

Oh, well, actually, there is news. See, your mom just got her angel wings and was promoted to chief guardian angel, which is a real title and not at all made up. And I’m telling you, it is all the talk of Fairyland.

It is? [light music]

Yeah, it sure is. And despite my denial before, which is only because I’m a very modest person and I didn’t want to flaunt it, I am indeed a fairy. And, Thomas, I– I have an advance for you on that loose tooth. Here you go.

Wow, thank you.

You’re welcome. And, Charlotte, some moolah for you on whichever tooth of yours happens to become loose next.

Very generous.

As we fairies tend to be. And I’m sorry, Mrs. Williams. I would offer you a loose tooth advance, but I have run out of cash.

Well, I’ve run out of patience. So, children, let’s get going right now.

See you, tooth fairy.

Yeah, I’ll see you soon, I hope. And hey, don’t forget to floss.

Jeez, how was I supposed to know?

So Stefan DiMera, aka your brother, has officially recanted his claim of you admitting to him your role in the baby switch involving Eric Brady, Sloan Petersen, and your ex-wife Nicole Walker?

Indeed, he has. And he has also stated, though not officially, that he will cease and desist with his baseless campaign to undermine me.

Huh. Interesting.

And also extremely gratifying for me, as you can imagine, since now, Madam Mayor, you have no reason to fire me.

Oh, but you gave me plenty reason to fire you, EJ, baby switch or no baby switch. However, since for some unfathomable reason, Melinda Trask likes working for your sister, so I don’t have anyone to replace you with–yet.

Then I will continue happily working as DA. And I won’t take up any more of your time.

Mm. Hold on. Hold on one sec. I do have one concern.

And what is that?

We both know that this claim is a lie. So tell me, exactly how did you coerce your brother into signing it? [dramatic music]

You know, when the timer on the bomb was ticking down and I was sure I was going to die, I thought of all the things I wish I’d done or said in my life. And the one thing I wish I’d done most was to tell you one more time that I loved you.

And when you came to see me that night in the hospital…

I thought maybe staring death in the face was exactly what we needed. I wanted to forgive you.

Same.

And then I found out about you and Ava and how you tried to have sex with her again as revenge for my revenge sex with EJ.

OK, but it didn’t happen. We didn’t sleep together again.

And I didn’t sleep with EJ again either.

But you wanted to.

Gabi, EJ told me that he turned you down.

It’s true. He did. I was hurt. And I wanted to hurt you. Same for you, obviously.

So it was both of us wanting to inflict pain on each other.

And that’s not just something that you do to someone you love with your whole heart, is it?

Sorry to contradict you, Mayor Price, but Stefan’s statement was completely truthful.

Please, don’t insult my intelligence. I mean, come on. The man’s changing his tune for no reason. When he came to see me, he was determined to bring you down.

So he was, until I threatened to sue him for defamation, which would have brought him down.

Oh. I see. But tell me–tell me, EJ, what are you two brothers going to do when you run out of things to blackmail each other over?

[laughs] Oh, that’ll never happen, endless supply. Well, I won’t take up any more of your time. I’m looking forward to working with you again, Mayor Price. Take care. [dramatic music]

When you were taken from me and I thought you died…

It felt as though my heart had been ripped out.

I didn’t think I’d ever feel whole again. And then you came back, and it was a miracle.

And I wanted nothing to do with you.

And it was like losing you all over again.

[sighs]

But then when we were finally together again…

We were so happy.

Then I went to prison. And the only thing that got me through was knowing that you were waiting for me. I kept telling myself, I have to stay strong for him, for us.

And then when I found out about you and Ava–

[sighs] Biggest mistake of my life.

[sighs] So you kept saying.

But still, I couldn’t handle it, obviously.

Gabi… I’m so sorry.

And I would give anything to go back and erase that terrible mistake.

Because when we were good, when we were happy, we–

What? Say it.

I’ve never loved anybody the way I love you.

You were… everything to me, just like I wrote to you on our anniversary.

[sighs] So beautiful. [chuckles] “And I see you in the stars.”

“You’re the brightest one by far.”

“I love… everything you are.”

“And I need you right beside me…”

“With your love’s pure light to guide me.”

You’re a poet.

I’m a fool.

I’m a damn fool. I screwed everything up.

Yeah. You kind of did.

And then I screwed it up even worse.

And it’s such a shame.

Yeah.

I’m so sorry.

I’m sorry too.

But like you said, those mental images…

Relentless images that we both see now…

Damage is done. And there’s nothing left to fight for anymore.

So… I filed for divorce.

I just want it over with, same as you.

Goodbye, Gabi.

Goodbye, Stefan.

[sobbing]

[light country music]

So when Stefan offered me the job at the Bistro, he insisted that his marriage was over and he didn’t care what Gabi thought of me working there.

So you accepted his offer.

Yeah, I did. But then I gave it some thought, and I realized that it might be a little more complicated than I had bargained for. So I quit before I started. [laughs]

OK.

Yeah. But then you know that Stefan came and he saved me from everyone’s favorite whack job, Ms. Connie Vininski.

Yeah, and thank God he did.

Yeah, thank God he did. But, you know, we haven’t had a chance to discuss what happened because he found out that Gabi had been hurt and he ran off to check on her. And I don’t know, for all I know, they could be back together again.

Listen, Ava, if you want the job here, it’s yours. But before you decide, maybe you should figure out where things are with Stefan first.

Are you saying you want me to take more time to make good on what I owe you?

Hey, I’ve waited this long.

Roman, you are the best, the best, best. Thank you. I will keep you posted. [laughs]

Hey, Roman.

Hey.

I know you’re closed for the shoot that didn’t happen, but is there any chance of getting a drink around here? It has been a day, and it’s not over yet.

OK, how about a beer?

Mm, I think I would prefer three dirty martinis, a slice of rum cake, followed by a chocolate bourbon tart. But I’ll take it.

[sighs] I know that soap opera life is crazy, but real life just leaves it in the dust, crazy-wise.

Well, what’s going on in real life that is so crazy?

It seems that Chad’s kids still don’t know that Abigail is alive. Just found that out the hard way.

[dramatic music]

Chad, I do not want to turn your– our children’s lives upside down on the off chance that it might help with my memories coming back. And I feel terrible enough disappointing you. I will not be able to handle disappointing them too.

OK, look, I’m not trying to upset you. I don’t want to argue.

OK, if you don’t want to– if you don’t want to tell the kids, then we won’t tell the kids.

Thank you. Thank you for understanding. I really appreciate it.

Yeah. I just have to call Julie and tell her not to bring the kids.

That’s not good.

What?

Julie sent me a text that said that they were– that I didn’t see that said they’re on their way home. [door clicks open]

Who are you?

So after I stupidly blurted, great news about your mom, and got dagger eyes from Julie, I covered by telling those adorable kids that what I meant was that their mother had just gotten her angel wings and was promoted to chief guardian angel. Then I was just going on and on about fairies, the kind that are in heaven.

But the kids bought it, right?

I mean, they seemed to. But, God, I would have just assumed that they would have been told by now that their mother is alive and well and living in Salem. I mean, how long do they think they can keep a secret like that under wraps? [light country music] [dramatic music]

Why are you staring at me? Dad, why haven’t you answered my question?

Thomas, I think your father is… collecting his thoughts. Give him a moment.

I’m sorry, Thomas. Sorry to stare. I–and, Charlotte, you too. I’ve heard so much about both of you. I was not expecting to meet either of you today. I am a friend of Daddy’s. We work together at the newspaper.

Hey, you guys, I want to hear about your– your day. I do, but– but we have to finish up our business meeting. Julie, do you think you could take the kids while we–while we finish? We have stuff to discuss.

But–

Of course. We’ll go into the kitchen and have our little treats and perhaps some milk too, OK?

But Aunt Julie said you had a surprise for us.

[clears throat] Later, OK?

OK.

OK?

Come on.

[exhales sharply]

Did that trigger anything?

No, it didn’t.

Well, I’m– I don’t know where we go from here, then.

I–I might have an idea.

[lounge music]

Hey, hey, hey.

Hey. [clears throat]

Busy?

Dinner service hasn’t started yet.

Right, right, right. Listen, I’m just gonna dive right on in. I was talking with Roman, and he encouraged me to follow up with you on your job offer, the one you offered me.

Oh, the one that you quit.

Yeah.

Yeah.

That’s the one.

What, are you here to un-quit?

Well, it depends.

On?

On whether you and Gabi are back together.

Mm. No, God, no.

Really? ‘Cause when you found out that she was hurt and you ran off after her, I thought that maybe–

No, there was a split second there that I…

Held out hope that we could work things out. But no, Gabi and I do not have a future together, not happening.

Well, I hope everything is well with you and Chanel. We’ll catch up when I see you at home. All right. Bye-bye, Johnny. [dramatic music] Hello, Gabi.

EJ. What are you doing here?

Well, I just thought you should know that I had a call from your brother a little while ago and he warned me to stay away from you. So since we do live in the same house, I was wondering how you would like to handle the situation once you’re discharged.

It’ll be fine. It’s a big house. I’m sure we’ll respect each other’s boundaries. And Rafe was just being protective.

Right.

I assume they’re from Stefan? Nothing says “I’m groveling here” than a bouquet fresh from the grocery store, huh? [chuckles]

Those aren’t from Stefan. And he and I are way past the groveling stage. In fact, he was just here to tell me that he’s filing for divorce because of you.

Did Stefan say he’s filing for divorce because of me, or is that just your assumption?

It’s not just my assumption. He basically said you taunted him, told him that he would never be able to get the image of the two of us out of his head.

Mm. Yes. Yes, I did tell him that because I know my brother and he tends to obsess, a little OCD, if you will. So I was only stating what I know to be true. [dramatic music]

And what I know to be true is what your son, Johnny, once told you, as I recall.

And what is that?

Well, in essence, it was about misplaced anger. He apparently said that since your marriage to Nicole was ruined, instead of directing that anger toward her or Eric, you took it out on your brother and me, tried to ruin our marriage.

And now you’ve succeeded.

[lounge music]

You and Gabi are getting a divorce?

Yeah. It was my idea. I filed. We talked, and… well, Gabi and I are on the same page.

Look… you know that I am no fan of Gabi’s.

But I care about you. And I really hope that you are not jumping the gun and doing this because your feelings got hurt.

No, that’s not it at all.

There is part of me that will always love Gabi.

But neither of us can get over what we did, so…

I’m so sorry, Stefan.

Don’t be. It’s not your fault. You did not make any promises to Gabi. I did. I’m the one who’s sorry.

So what do you think?

My God, you two, what’s going on? I thought this was the day, the day we were gonna tell the children the truth about their mother.

Yeah, I know. We were going to, but Abby wasn’t ready. I shouldn’t have assumed that she would be. And I didn’t get your text. Otherwise, I would have told you not to come home.

Well, too late about that now. All right…[chuckles] This is my chance to meet you finally, Abigail. I’m your cousin Julie.

Hi. It’s so nice to meet you, Julie. I have heard so much about you and your husband, Doug. And I’m really grateful for all you’ve done to help us with this– this situation.

Of course. [dramatic music] Gee, if you remembered– if you remembered me, you would realize that sometimes I can be a little blunt. Abigail, dear, surely you don’t believe you can continue with this charade indefinitely. Listen to me. I was just at Horton Square and ran into Leo Stark, and he just about blew the whole secret out of the water.

What?

Yeah. He said, well, I’ve heard the good news about your mother.

Of course, the idiot covered pretty well. I’ll give him that. But how long before somebody else says something like that? Somebody else will.

And we both know that. And Abby was actually just telling me about an idea that would address that eventuality.

What is it?

I–I want us to go to Paris.

Gabi, I’m sorry… if you blame me for the end of your marriage. [dramatic music] But when you and I shared that night of passion, I was under the distinct impression that it was already over.

Yeah, I know.

[sighs]

I don’t mean to blame you. You’re right. I only lashed out at you because it was easier than blaming myself. But I am to blame. I know that.

I was the one who came on to you in the first place. And when I wanted to have sex with you again, you turned me down.

And I can’t believe I’m saying this, but… you were a perfect gentleman.

Well, I do have my moments. [laughter]

Gabi…

I’ve never seen you back down from a fight.

So if you don’t want your marriage to be over–

It’s not a fight, not anymore.

Whatever I feel for Stefan, too much has happened. And he agrees with me. What we had is truly dead, for good this time.

You know, I should have known all along that… things were gonna end up like this. [lounge music] What’s that saying?

Nothing that burns so bright can last too long. [scoffs]

Hmm. Yeah, I never really heard that. But…sounds about right.

Yeah. Well, I hope you will consider coming back to work at the Bistro without having any concern over Gabi or my future behavior, which will be impeccable, by the way.

I’m not worried about your behavior, Stefan. But I really do need this job, so I thank you.

And I want you to know, I would gladly, gladly trade an apron at the Brady Pub if it meant that things could be different for you with Gabi.

[chuckles] Nice of you to say.

I mean it.

And as they fall into each other’s arms, it is clear they are going to make mad, passionate– Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t realize I was talking out loud.

No problem. You know what, Leo? Your talking out loud is very entertaining, most of the time.

[laughs] Well, let’s hope the audience finds it entertaining.

I’m sure they will. How’d the shoot at the hospital go?

The nutshell version? Hattie, in her diva grandiosity, gave the producers an ultimatum about not wanting to work with Bonnie. And since Abe and Kate weren’t having any of that, I had to write Hattie’s crash landing. So Ms. Adams is now in the soap opera graveyard, I’m afraid.

Oh, no.

Yeah, and I feel really terrible because I knew about it before she did, obviously, but was instructed that I couldn’t say a word until after she had shot her last scenes with Bonnie because Abe and Kate were concerned that if she knew about it beforehand, she might have a hissy fit and storm off the set.

Yeah, well, knowing Hattie, I’m pretty sure she would.

Yeah, probably. But still, I consider Hattie a friend. I hate that she was blindsided like this.

Yeah, well, that’s why they call it show business and not show friendship, right?

Yeah. I know. Still, I just– I feel like such a heel. You know when you try to justify an awful lie for a good reason? But it’s still a lie and doesn’t make you feel any better about it in the end.

[dramatic music]

Paris?

Well, Chad said that’s where we went after we got married and that it was one of the most romantic, special times of our life, so…

I’m aware.

And since it was the wedding album that initially triggered the memories, she thought that maybe if we went back there, it would–it would– you know, just being there would trigger something else. And she’s been under so much stress and pressure in Salem.

Oh, yes. Are you planning on taking your children with you to France?

No, no. I was thinking that we should leave them in Boston with Jack and–with my parents. That way, we don’t have to worry about someone else slipping up and saying something to them.

Right. Well, I’m sure Jack and Jennifer would love to look after the children. What if you get to France and you look at the Eiffel Tower and you still don’t remember anything?

If I don’t remember anything, if this doesn’t jog the memories, we’re not gonna keep this charade going on forever. We will come back here and we will absolutely tell the children the truth.

Ah. Telling the truth is sensible. [clears throat]

You’re on board with all of this, Chad?

Paris, here we come.

Recap written by Suzanne

Ridge chats with Li in office about Taylor and her broken heart syndrome. He thinks Taylor could use a therapist; he confides that he’s having a hard time not telling Brooke or the kids about what Taylor’s going through. He asks Li to have a chat with Taylor, so she can come to terms with her diagnosis. Brooke arrives, and she wonders what’s going on with Taylor. She asks how Li and Poppy are doing, with what happened, with Luna. Li admits that they’re taking it one day or a time. She leaves, and Brooke questions whether something is going on with Taylor. She says that having Taylor around and spending so much time with Ridge is an adjustment, but she claims that she’s not jealous. He teases her a little bit, and then they kiss and hug. Ridge looks guilty behind her back. She catches him up about Will working at Forrester, and he’s gleeful that Bill will not be happy to hear that. She also talks about Bill was hoping to get back with Katie. She brings up Hope awkwardly as well.

Carter has good news for Hope. He’s done some early projections, and the numbers are going up for Hope For The Future. She’s very happy to hear that. He tells her that he cares about her, and the line. He knows that things have been tense for her, with Steffy, and they briefly mention Finn, which she’s embarrassed about. He knows what it’s like because of what happened with Quinn. She jokes about not having to model lingerie for HFTF now. She asks about Katie, which surprises him. He assures her that he and Katie are just friends. He is single, and she tells him that he’s easy to be with. They joke around and flirt, but they also have some meaningful discussion. She’s sad that Thomas has taken Douglas out of the country. She thanks Carter for his concern, and he returns with many compliments about how much he admires her. They talk a little more about his past (Paris and Quinn), and about what happened with Beth. They get closer and then have a very passionate kiss.

Zende teases Will at Forrester about being the new intern. They both agree that there are distractions there. Will just doesn’t want to let his mom down. Zende suggests they go get pizza for lunch. Liam arrives and is shocked to see Will there. Model Lainey comes in and congratulations Will on being the newest Forrester intern. Liam can’t believe it and teases Will about what their dad is going to say. Zende is called away, so Liam invites Will out to lunch instead. They go to Il Giordino. Lainey and another woman, Toni, see them, so Will says hi and introduces Liam. Liam suggests they all sit together. He steals all of the attention by talking about his kids and showing them photos. He also mentions that he has multiple ex-wives, which shocks the women. Will rolls his eyes at Liam’s shenanigans.

Primetime TV Review of “Joan”

TV Review!

"Joan" key art - from The CW press site

“Joan” on The CW Review by Suzanne 10/7/24

I wanted to like this UK series (originally on ITV) because it has top notch acting and writing, and my late mom’s name was Joan!’ but I have a problem with any show like this, where the main character turns to crime. I guess I can’t ever imagine myself being so desperate as to become a criminal (even though I grew up very poor and was also in foster care). We can blame the success of shows like “Weeds” and “Breaking Bad” for these TV series… There are so many, like “Ozark,” “Claws,” and “The Good Girls.” I also don’t like shows like “The Punisher” or “Penguin” that glorify real villains. I’ve always loved the hero of the story; the good guy. It’s really hard for me to be objective about “Joan” because she makes a lot of poor decisions and endangers her life as well as the lives of her family (especially her daughter).

Perhaps if the show had started with Joan as a sophisticated, beautiful, rich jewel thief who fell in love with a handsome detective, and then we find out gradually what made her turn to crime, then I would like it more (See “The Thomas Crown Affair”). I think we’re supposed to find her sympathetic because she has a rotten husband, gangsters are threatening her and her child, and she has very little family or money. She’s desperate and turns to a life of crime. However, she also loves the excitement of being a thief, and she clearly enjoys beautiful, sparkly things (doesn’t everyone?).  She’s obviously smart, so she should go to college and get a real career. Nope, sorry. No sympathy here.

Anyway, if you like these types of shows, this is a good one. Sophie Turner is excellent as a British woman, down on her luck, who becomes a jewel thief. It’s apparently based on a true story.  You won’t be alone because the show is very successful. Check it out!

Primetime TV Review of “Trivial Pursuit”

TV Review!

"Trivial Pursuit" key art

“Trivial Pursuit” on The CW Review by Suzanne 10/7/24

If you love game shows (especially those like “Jeopardy”), you should enjoy this. Actor LeVar Burton (Best known for “Reading Rainbow,” “Roots” and “Star Trek: Next Generation”) is the host, as well as producer, of this new series. He competed on Celebrity Jeopardy! in Season 12, and served as interim host on Jeopardy! from July 26 to July 30, 2021.  He wasn’t chosen as the permanent host of Jeopardy! , but I’m glad he was able to host this show. He does a great job of it. I think he was too nervous, to be honest, when he tried out for Jeopardy!

The show is much like the home game we’ve all played.  Each player has to answer questions from the six categories of Geography (blue), Entertainment (pink), History (yellow), Arts & Literature (purple), Science & Nature (green), and Sports & Leisure (orange). When they answer the question correctly, they get points as well as a wedge in that category. They get points for getting a wedge, as well. After the first round, the player with the lowest score leaves. The two remaining players keep playing for the final round, and the total winning prize of $20,000.

To me, the prize seems very low, compared to shows like “Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?” or “$100,000 Pyramid.” However, I checked, and “Jeopardy” winners also get $20,000, so I guess that’s right.  Contestants on this show don’t lose points or money if they guess incorrectly. They just don’t get to answer the next question. I noticed that all of them answered very quickly, even interrupting Burton, so I didn’t see anyone get the buzzer that they get on other shows if they take too long to answer. Perhaps they were told to be quick about the answers. In the final round, they have a limited time to answer the questions.

I watched the first episode and enjoyed it. The first winner, Nicole Holliday, was very smart and enthusiastic.  She’s a professor at UC Berkeley, so obviously she’s smart.  The other two (both men) didn’t stand a chance. The second round’s winner, Sara Delvillano, was also a woman.  She teaches music to children and also helps run an organization that helps dogs find homes.  Interestingly enough, she also won on Jeopardy! in 2019.

The show is definitely worth watching if you love trivia. I find that I know a lot more of these answers than I ever did watching “Jeopardy!” I believe that makes the show more accessible to the average viewer.  Watch it and find out for yourself.

Primetime TV Review: “Doctor Odyssey”

TV Review!

DOCTOR ODYSSEY - Key Art. (Disney)

“Doctor Odyssey” on ABC Review by Suzanne 10/7/24

At first glance, this seems like a slightly-more-dramatic version of “The Love Boat,” from the doctor’s point of view.  The series was created by Ryan Murphy, who usually comes up ideas that are either horrifying (“American Horror Story”) or at least, slightly-off-kilter (“Nip/Tuck”) or  very original (“Glee”). However, even at second glance, this show really does seem to be a just a breezy medical drama set aboard a cruise ship. I find it a little bit disappointing, just from the fact that Murphy created it and that it stars Joshua Jackson, who’s been excellent in so many series, from “Dawson’s Creek” to “Doctor Death.”

Jackson plays a renowned doctor, Max, who is looking for a more relaxing, fun life aboard a cruise ship after battling COVID and other horrors (he reveals in the first episode that he was “Patient Zero” in NYC and nearly died). The legendary Don Johnson plays the ship’s captain, who runs a tight ship and expects excellence from his crew.  (Who knew that Sonny Crockett would turn into Captain Stubing?) Max has two nurses that assist him, Avery (Phillipa Soo) and Tristan (Sean Teale). The ship, its crew, and the many medical maladies they encounter on board are not the easy life that Max expected.

Amid the health crises, there is plenty of time for romance, dancing, and drinking.  Max and Avery have a slight tryst in the first episode. The second episode is about “Singles Week.” Apparently, each weekly cruise has a different theme, to make it slightly more interesting. I guess Ryan Murphy is trying to pay tribute to the shows he loved in his youth on ABC (the same network where “The Love Boat” aired).  Although each episode has new guest stars, they’re not the center of all the action the way they were on the original “Love Boat” that ran from 1977-1986.  The show’s four main stars are the focus of the show, along with the ship and the beautiful scenery. Guest stars include Chord Overstreet, Shania Twain, John Stamos, Cheyenne Jackson, Gina Gershon and Rachel Dratch.

From what I’ve read, ABC is trying to sell this as exciting and sexy.  My advice is that you pour yourself a nice tropical drink and sit down to watch this one….but you may find that it’s not the drinking that makes you sleepy. I really hope it gets better. Otherwise, the talent on the series deserves better than this. FOX had a much better retro show with the “Fantasy Island” reboot that they canceled last year, sadly. I really enjoyed that one. ABC should have rescued that instead.

Primetime TV Review: “Murder In a Small Town”

TV Review!

"Murder In A Small Town" on The CW key art

“Murder In A Small Town” on FOX Review by Suzanne 10/7/24

I love the actors in this show. I’m a huge fan of “Smallville,” and I’ve watched all of the shows Kristin Kreuk has starred in since.  I really enjoyed Rossif Sutherland’s work in the Prime show “Three Pines.”  It’s wonderful to see them paired together in this series. They have amazing chemistry together.

This series really reminds me of those Hallmark movies, or series of movies, which usually take place in a small town. The heroine falls for a guy, or her old boyfriend, and sometimes, like in several of the Hallmark movie series, they solve murders together. The heroines, such as Hannah Swensen, Aurora Teagarden, or Ruby Herring, are generally smarter than everyone around them, including the boyfriend.  Now, this series on FOX (based on the Alberg and Cassandra Mysteries, a series of B.C.-set crime novels by L.R. Wright.) is a Canadian show about a detective named Karl Alberg (Sutherland) who’s new to town, and he meets up with the town’s librarian, Cassandra (Kreuk).  The murders are the focus of the show, but their romance is what ties the show together and makes it worth watch.

The small town, in this case, is Gibsons, a small coastal town that most of us in the U.S. have no doubt never heard of. It’s in the area called the Sunshine Coast. It sets a moody tone that you may be familiar with from watching shows like “The Killing” or “True Detective.”  The romance between the two, and the quirky characters, keep the show from getting too dark.

Each episode has a different murder, and the murder is solved within the show’s 42 minutes.  Whether there will be many long-term stories (besides the romance) remains to be seen.  Alberg is aided in his detective work by stalwart policeman Sergeant Sid Sokolowski (Aaron Douglas of “The Watchful Eye”). Guest stars include James Cromwell, Erica Durance, Lucas Bryant, Greyston Holt, Nathan Witte, Stana Katic, and Paula Patton.

I think the stories and characters are worth watching.  Even if you don’t like the show, you may enjoy the beautiful British Columbia scenery.

Kristin Kreuk (Cassandra) and Rossif Sutherland (Karl) star in "Murder in a Small Town" (photo from trailer)All new murder mystery series Murder in a Small Town is based on the Edgar Award-winning, nine-book Karl Alberg series by acclaimed novelist L.R. Wright, and stars Rossif Sutherland (Reign, The Handmaid’s Tale) and Kristin Kreuk (Smallville, Beauty and the Beast). Murder in a Small Town follows Karl Alberg (Sutherland), who moves to a quiet, coastal town to soothe a psyche that has been battered by big-city police work. He’ll quickly learn that this gentle paradise has more than its share of secrets and will need to call upon all the skills that made him a world-class detective in solving the murders that, even in this seemingly idyllic setting, continue to wash up on his shore. Kreuk stars as Cassandra Lee, a local librarian who becomes Karl’s muse, foil and romantic interest.

Mya Lowe (My Life with the Walter Boys, Yellowjackets), Savonna Spracklin (Two-Spirit Odyssey, Wildhood), Aaron Douglas (Battlestar Galactica, The Watchful Eye) and Fritzy-Klevans Destine (The Boys, Superman & Lois) recur in the series, which also features special guest stars James Cromwell (Babe, Succession), Stana Katic (Castle, Absentia), Paula Patton (The Perfect Match, Precious) and Noah Reid (Schitt’s Creek).

Murder in a Small Town is produced by Sepia Films in association with FOX Entertainment and Jeff Wachtel’s Future Shack Entertainment. The series is produced in British Columbia with Ian Weir (Arctic Air, Edgemont) serving as head writer/executive producer, Milan Cheylov (24, The Cleaning Lady) executive-producing and directing multiple episodes of the program, and Nick Orchard (Soapbox Productions), Morris Ruskin and Sharon Wisnia (Mojo Global Arts) and Jon Cotton also serving as executive producers.

Primetime TV Review: “Brilliant Minds”

TV Review!

BRILLIANT MINDS -- Season: 1 -- Pictured: (l-r) Alex MacNicoll as Dr. Van Markus, Ashleigh LaThrop as Dr. Ericka Kinney, Tamberla Perry as Dr. Carol Pierce, Zachary Quinto as Dr. Oliver Wolf, Teddy Sears as Dr. Josh Nichols, Aury Krebs as Dr. Dana Dang, Spence Moore II as Dr. Jacob Nash -- (Photo by: Brendan Meadows/NBC)

“Brilliant Minds” on NBC Review by Suzanne 10/6/24

I love seeing Zachary Quinto in any movie or TV show (ever since his great role as Sylar on “Heroes”).  He shines here as the prickly neurologist Oliver Wolf, who has trouble getting along with others (particularly his mother). He has prosopagnosia, AKA face blindness, so that doesn’t help him with personal interaction. He works with a team of interns and his long-time good friend, Dr. Carol Pierce (Tamberla Perry, “Death and Other Details”). The show is unusual and interesting, but it might remind you a little of “House” or “The Good Doctor.” At this point, a doctor who thinks he’s more brilliant than everyone else is a familiar TV trope. The writing of the show, however, is excellent and will surprise you. The show was created, written and produced by Michael Grassi of “Riverdale.”

Like most medical dramas, the most intriguing part of the show is watching the doctors figure out what’s wrong with the patients or how to treat them. Wolf has very unusual ideas and likes to dive deep into his patient’s life in order to figure out their neurological problem.

At the beginning of the first episode, Dr. Wolf sneaks out a dementia patient (Broadway and TV vet Andre de Shields) from an elder care facility to see his grand-daughter get married. He and the old man go on stage, and the man sings and plays a Beach Boys song, “God Only Knows.” Wolf figured out that the way to reach the man was through music. The bride is overjoyed to see him there, but her parents are not too happy about Dr. Wolf’s actions. He loses his job and goes into seclusion, but Carol convinces him to come work at her hospital on an interesting case, despite the fact that he doesn’t want to work for his mother (the chief of staff, Dr. Landon, played by Donna Murphy – another Broadway, TV and movie vet).

After Dr. Wolf starts working at the hospital, he learns that he’s expected to mentor some interns, which he’s not too thrilled about. Carol makes him see that he needs to be honest about his condition and connect better with other people in order to get things done.  Things may not go that smoothly for the brilliant doctor, though.  He’s got many issues, having to do with his childhood. The only thing not an issue is that he’s gay. Another doctor on the show is played by Teddy Sears, Quinto’s former castmate in “American Horror Story,” so perhaps they’ll be teamed up in a romantic relationship. Watch and see! This show is already a hit and will keep you on your toes.

Primetime TV Review: “Matlock”

TV Review!

Kathy Bates as Mattie in "Matlock" on CBS (photo from IMDB)

“Matlock” on CBS Review by Suzanne 10/5/24

I wasn’t sure whether I would like this show or not because I didn’t really care for the original series, starring Andy Griffith. It was just another show, similar to “Diagnosis: Murder” or “Murder She Wrote,” where an older person helps solve crimes in their every-day life.  Of course, “Matlock” was more like “Perry Mason” in that he was a lawyer that would help find the real murderer (so that his client would go free).  It’s basically the same idea, though.

This version of “Matlock” is not really a reboot at all.  The main character is played by a woman (Kathy Bates), and she is not what she seems, which we find out at the end of the first episode. Bates is always fascinating to watch, and she really excels here because the writing is top-notch.  She mentions the original show “Matlock” many times, so we know that this is not set in the original show’s “universe.”  What they’ve done with it is very interesting, though, and anyone who stays through the end of the first episode will figure that out.

Besides the great lead actress, there is a wonderful cast of people, including Beau Bridges, Jason Ritter, Skye P. Marshall, David Del Rio and Leah Lewis. There are some fun guest stars each week as well. I can’t wait to see what else they do with this series. Do yourself a favor and tune in ASAP because this is already the best new show of the Fall season.

Marshall), a senior attorney and key rainmaker with a thirst for justice, Olympia’s ex-husband, Julian (Jason Ritter), the son of the head of the firm, is intrigued by Matty and her clever skills. Daytime Soap Opera Short Recaps

B&B logo

Recap written by Suzanne

Taylor doesn’t believe Grace’s diagnosis of Broken Heart Syndrome. Grace explains that motional stress can cause damage to heart muscle, and it can be linked to estrogen dropping. She lists all of the symptoms, which Taylor has had. Ridge thinks this is great news, but Taylor takes it like a slap in the face. She goes into completely denial and acts like Grace is telling her that her symptoms are all in her head. Upset, Taylor leaves. She rants and raves to Ridge at Steffy’s house. When she mentions getting a second opinion, he urgers her to do that but advises her not to ignore it. He reminds her that she told him years ago that the mind and body are connected and that problems with the mind are dangerous to ignore. She’s still angry and lashes out a bit at Ridge. Eventually, she calms down, and she tells him again not to tell anyone (this time because she’s embarrassed). He holds her hand, telling her that he’s there for her, always. They hug.

Liam and Steffy chat about some deal Forrester is making with Spencer. After that’s settled, they talk about how nice it is for Steffy to have Taylor around again. They chuckle about how much Kelly goes on and on about her grandma. Liam is surprised she’s planning to stay, but Steffy says that her mom seems different. Liam wonders if it maybe it’s due to Ridge. Steffy lets him know that she’s planing to stay out of Ridge and Taylor’s relationship this time. Liam also mentions that Ridge is with Brooke. They talk about how strong Taylor is, and how she’s had to deal with a lot in her life.

Bill tells Brooke that Katie refuses to get back together with him. She knows that Katie blames her for what happened years ago with Bill. She offers to talk to Katie, to see if she can convince her to go back to Bill. Bill thanks Brooke for always seeing the best in him. He wonders why she and Ridge have never gotten re-married and whether Taylor being back in town might cause them problems, but she assures him that she and Ridge are solid.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[dramatic music]

Jada, hey. Well, I am actually not in my room right now, I’m taking a little scenic tour of my floor, which is nothing to write home about, but sure is nice to be mobile. Anyway, I was just checking to see what you were doing later. Well, I know that visiting hours are ending soon, but I was actually wondering if you could come and pick me up.

[laughs] Yeah, that’s right. Yep. Kayla gave me the all-clear. I’m just waiting for my walking papers, and I am going to be a free man. Just heading to Gabi’s room right now to give her the good news.

[door clicks open]

What are you doing here?

Gabi… I had to come back.

[sighs] I hate how we left things after you got hurt.

I’m so, so sorry that we fought.

Really? Seems to me you were itching for a fight. I mean, why else would you have told me that you were ready to get into bed with Ava– again?

OK, I never, ever should have gotten involved with that woman. And I know that. It was a terrible mistake…

Risking our entire marriage for someone I didn’t care about, who was completely meaningless.

But you…

I care about you. You’re the person I care about the most, and I love you. I need you. So please, please take me back.

[light music]

Hey, Felicity. Hey.

Hey.

Hey. What are you doing just sitting out here? I thought your shift didn’t end for, like, ten minutes.

Chanel said that I could go home early.

Oh. Oh, OK. Well, I know Mark was supposed to come get you, but he called me and see if I can come get you instead. Something about an important meeting.

What kind of meeting?

Honestly, sis, suddenly remembering your wedding vows– genius move.

Yeah.

[sighs]

[dramatic music] It’s like I said. Chad mentioned that there was a box of wedding mementos in the attic, so I went up there to see if there was maybe something I could use.

And no one saw you go up there, right?

No. No, no, no. I made sure no one did.

[sighs] Luckily, the box of wedding mementos was right there. And there was a piece of paper that had Abigail’s vows written on it, neatly, in very legible handwriting.

And as far as Chad knows, you’ve never seen that piece of paper before?

No. No, not at all.

Yeah.

[sighs] Poor guy.

I just–he thinks that I just remembered those beautiful vows and that his beloved wife’s memories are starting to come back, slowly but surely.

[chuckles]

Hi, Chad.

Hi. Hey. I didn’t know you were home.

Yes, I was just up in the attic. Chad…

We have to talk.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

So you were up in the attic.

Sit down, darling.

[dramatic music]

OK.

Now, you know how Charlotte loves to go up to the attic to play in all those things and find Doug’s old theatrical trunk and look through all the old costume bits and bits of my jewelry.

Yeah, it’s her favorite place to play.

Yes. Right. Well, she was up there playing dress-up. I was with her, and she was going through every box that she could find, including the one that had the mementos of your– your marriage to Abigail.

Right.

[clears throat] Yeah, I pulled that out the other day. I wanted to show it to Abby to see if she, you know, would remember anything. And she actually did. She–she remembered her wedding vows from our last wedding, the one when we went to Paris afterwards. It’s amazing.

That’s wonderful. Well, I’m glad she remembered something.

[chuckles]

Is there a but coming?

Unfortunately, there is.

It haunts me, Mark…

the look on Chad’s face…

[scoffs] As I–

I was reciting the vows to him. I can’t even describe the look in his eyes. I mean, it was just like, he was so excited, you know. He was so excited that I–

[laughs] That his wife was really back, that–that… he was watching her remember their wedding day, watching her remember the love that the two of them shared together. Like–

[scoffs]

I can imagine how hard this is for you.

For me? Forget about me. I’m lying to him. Who cares how I feel?

Come on, sis.

No, I hate this, Mark. I hate it. I hate the thought of how Chad would feel if he knew that this was all a lie, how hurt he’ll be when he finds out. Has the man not been through enough?

The reason you’re so upset is because you have a good heart.

[sighs]

And I love you for that. Hey, this hasn’t been easy for me either. I mean, the man obviously went through hell when his wife was murdered. And now to make him think that she’s back when she’s not, when she never will be back–

But what’s the alternative?

There is no alternative. I mean, once I got the text from Clyde…

It’s clearer now than ever.

[sighs]

[sighs]

[sighs] We don’t have a choice. I have to get Chad to the altar soon for his wedding number four…

Or they’re gonna kill her. Our mother’s a dead woman.

[sighs]

So Ava really doesn’t mean anything to you?

No, not at all. The whole thing was completely meaningless, like I’ve told you over and over again.

Doesn’t she work for you now? I thought you just hired her back at the Bistro.

But I also just fired her.

What? You did?

Yeah. I don’t even know why I hired her in the first place when I can’t stand the sight of her. I don’t know. I guess I was feeling… charitable, giving someone a job who was struggling. But none of that matters to me now. Ava Vitali can sling hash at the pub for all I care, because all that matters to me is you and that you take me back. Gabi… my love, I will do anything to make that happen, anything you ask.

What do you say, darling?

Gabi?

Hold on. I’m thinking.

Gabi.

Gabi.

What? What is it?

Hey. It’s me. It’s Rafe.

Rafe.

Hey.

Oh, my God. Rafe.

Yeah. You were mumbling. Having a dream. Good dream? Bad dream?

Just…a dream.

Ah. Still trying to get the hang of it, are you, of running a legitimate business?

What are you doing here?

Well, it’s certainly not for the second-rate French cuisine.

I’ll save you from trying to decipher the legalese. I’m suing you for defamation.

[dramatic music]

You’re suing me for defamation? What the hell are you talking about, EJ? When? When did I defame you?

My, you do have a short memory. You defamed me when you told Mayor Price that I had a hand in stealing Nicole’s baby, that I was, in effect, a kidnapper. And since that will undoubtedly hurt my reputation and therefore my career prospects, I’m going to need to be well compensated.

Mm, well, you know, EJ, the last thing I would want is for you to be stuck in the poorhouse.

Mm.

Well, maybe not the last thing. But anyway, you’re delusional if you think that I’m going to bankroll your future after you admitted to me that you helped Sloan Petersen cover up the fact that she stole your ex-wife’s baby. EJ, I may not be the lawyer of the family, but I’m not an idiot. And I also know that the truth is the best defense against any claim of defamation.

[laughs] Impressive. Impressive. I mean, you may not be the lawyer of the family, as you said, but I suspect that you’ve been sneaking peeks into my law books, because you are right about that. The truth is a solid defense against claims of defamation. However, the burning question is, who is going to give a damn about the truth when it becomes common knowledge that I slept with your wife?

Never mind my stupid dream. Oh, my God, Rafe, you’re out of bed.

Well, actually, I’ve been doing that for a while now. Yeah. Taking walks around the floor.

Oh, that is so great.

Yeah. Well, I’m– I’m feeling lucky, grateful, relieved to be healthy and strong. And… yeah, I had to come by, give my sister even more good news.

Oh, as if seeing you up and about isn’t good enough. So what is it?

Well, not only am I out of my room, but I am getting out of the hospital today.

You’re kidding. So soon? That’s amazing.

So soon. Yeah, right. Oh, my God, I am just– I am so sick of staring at the ceiling tiles, lying around and doing nothing. I cannot wait to go home and to get back to work.

I bet you can’t.

Yeah. Well, look, enough about me. How about you? How are you?

Not too bad.

Oh.

I mean, given the fact, I almost got blown to smithereens by the psychopath who stabbed you.

My God.

Ay, Rafe, I feel like such a fool. My God, I can’t believe I hired that homicidal maniac as my assistant. How could I not have seen that she was dangerous?

Gabi. Gabi.

That she was totally insane?

No, just–she was an accomplished con artist, OK? She–I mean, come on. You couldn’t have seen that and– anyway, Jada tells me that she is locked up and safely behind bars at Bayview and she is not gonna hurt anyone else, including Stefan.

What about Stefan? Why did you just bring him up?

Well, because she hurt him too.

So? I couldn’t care less about him.

Come on. Come on. Really?

[light music]

No.

Ah.

That’s for Mark.

OK. All right. All right, he can have it. Just take it home for him. Clearly, you love him more than me, so it’s fine. Whatever.

No, I don’t.

I’m just kidding. I’m just kidding. Mark is a–he’s really good brother, I know, huh?

Yeah.

Taking care of us the way he does. I think–I think Mom and Dad would be very proud of him.

Yeah. I wish they hadn’t died.

Yeah. Yeah, me too. I know it was really hard for you especially. Well, it was hard for all of us. But it’s just you, me, and Mark. We lost them in an accident.

And Mark is a great, great, great older brother, but I’m here for you too, OK? Always.

The hardest part for me is… lying to Aaron and Felicity.

[dramatic music]

Yeah, those poor kids, believing that both their parents died in that accident.

I mean, how they reacted when they were both told. Aaron trying to be brave. Felicity totally falling apart. Even now, I sometimes hear her up in her room crying hard and talking to herself, thinking she’s talking to Mom up in heaven, saying how much she misses her.

Yeah. Well, as sad as that is, you know, we can take heart in the fact that… this will all soon be over, and– and then we’ll be able to tell them that their mother– our mother is alive.

Did Charlotte get upset when she found the box?

Oh, no. Quite the contrary. She was delighted to see pictures of you and her mom on her wedding day, especially when she was in the pictures.

Then why do you seem upset?

[sighs] Well, after we looked at the pictures, she wanted to talk about her mother. And she told me that she knows her mother is in heaven. And then she said…

[sighs] Can we call Mommy? And I said, no. No, of course heaven is not a local call. I mean, the people there that– that love us can watch over us, but… we can’t talk to them. She was so disappointed.

So disappointed. I got upset. I got angry, because she could talk to her mother if we wanted it, because her mother is not in heaven. Her mother is just across town. And if Abigail could see how much her little daughter needs her–

Chad, it’s time that you told those children their mother’s alive.

So it’s gonna be common knowledge, huh? What, are you gonna grab a bell, head out to the square, give it a ring, and announce to everybody that you bedded your brother’s wife?

Well, I certainly wouldn’t put it that way, since you very well know I didn’t bed anyone. But rather, your wife threw herself at me, virtually begging me to have sex with her. And all I was trying to do was attempt to help her right an egregious moral wrong. And I hardly think that John Q. Salemite would fault me for that.

Hmm. Wow. That’s a great speech, EJ, really. Unfortunately, I don’t have any spare bells lying around, so maybe I can help you out with a glass and a fork.

[laughs] I hardly think I’ll have to resort to the town crier routine, since I think the “Intruder” would be more than happy to print a not-so-blind item about my night of passion with Gabi. Actually, it’s a damn shame that Lady Whistleblower has taken down her shingle. I’d have been more than happy to give the story to her.

[tense music]

Right, so what you’re saying is, once this story of your passionate liaison with my wife is in print, the whole idea of you keeping Nicole from raising her child, that’s gonna be considered, what, fake news?

[laughs] Oh, Stefan, keep up. Not fake news. But you see, as you well know, I have quite a bit of experience with jury selection. So I can say with some authority that I know that they’ll see you for exactly what you are: a cuckolded husband, humiliated and vengeful, trying to desperately prop himself up with baseless accusations.

And by the time I finish making my case, you won’t have enough money left to split the rent with your good buddy Ava.

Of course, that is if I file the suit, which…I won’t.

[clears throat]

That is… if you sign this affidavit saying that any and all accusations you made about me to Mayor Price and anyone else, for that matter, were patently false.

Listen, about Stefan. I didn’t want to overwhelm you with everything when you first woke with stuff you didn’t need to hear.

Well, actually, I did need to hear that stuff, ’cause you’re my sister. I love you very much. But fortunately, Jada knows that, and so she told me.

Right. I guess I should have assumed that she would. So…she told you what happened between me and Stefan?

She did. Not all the details, of course, but just… that he cheated on you.

Yeah. With your ex-girlfriend good old Ava Vitali while I was rotting away in prison.

Yeah, that must have been really tough to hear.

It was kind of brutal, actually. But hey, you know, I told you that she was trouble way back when you first got together, didn’t I? I was sure that she’d ruin your life.

Yeah, well, to be fair, that relationship ended because of something I did. I was the one that cheated on her.

[scoffs] Yeah, but, man, did she ever get back at you. Setting you up as a dirty cop, trying to ruin your career, your reputation? I’d say she went a little overboard, don’t you think?

Maybe a little.

Yeah. And she didn’t succeed at her attempt at trying to ruin your life, so she decided to ruin mine instead.

But she didn’t succeed there either. Look, can you honestly say that she’s ruined your life, Gabi?

[dramatic music]

My marriage is over.

OK, but it doesn’t need to be. OK, listen, I understand that Stefan hurt you, OK? I get it, and I am not making light of that. But… when he came back, you two, you were so in love, and you were so happy. I mean…

Don’t you think that at some point, you could forgive him? And can’t we both agree that… you know, maybe at times, you’re not the most levelheaded person.

Oh, my God. You think your hotheaded little sister is overreacting, don’t you?

Maybe a little.

Damn it, Rafe.

No, I just– all I’m saying is this. I just–I don’t want you to make some drastic decision that you can’t take back, right? I mean, you two, you’re so good together. You’re so happy together and so in love. And you know that. I mean–

Listen, I just want you to ask yourself, do you, in your heart, really think that your marriage is over?

Julie, I want to tell the kids that their mother’s alive. I’ve wanted to since the moment we found Abby.

But Abigail has not?

No, she–she–she doesn’t. She doesn’t want the kids to know because– because she’s afraid because of how different she looks and because she doesn’t remember them. She thinks it’ll be too traumatic for them. You disagree?

[sighs] I have no idea. I have no idea how the children are going to react. Nobody does, including Abigail. But the longer we wait to tell them–

I understand. I understand. I don’t like the idea either. But she doesn’t want to talk to them until she gets her memory back.

You just said she got her memory back about the vows.

Yeah, but she doesn’t remember the kids. She doesn’t remember anything about them.

[sighs] Please, I’m not a pessimist, and I don’t want to sound pessimistic. But when, if, and perhaps never she gets her memory back, who can tell? And in the meantime, she’s living in Salem. Anybody could talk to the children. Wouldn’t it be better for them to have the news from their father that their mother’s alive?

Aaron and Felicity have been through enough. I think it’s cruel to continue to lie to them.

Yeah. I know. It’s breaking my heart. But as long as Clyde is holding our mother hostage, it’s another case of not having a choice. We have to keep them in the dark.

Mark?

It’s just that you and Stefan have been through so much. I mean, you thought the man was dead for years.

You don’t have to remind me of that, Rafe.

Well, maybe I do. And maybe I also need to remind you that when you did find each other again, you were so damn happy. And it’s just– are you gonna let this one mistake ruin everything?

It was a damn big mistake.

OK, granted, it was, but… do you want to throw everything away because of that? I mean, it just seems– I don’t know. Look, it’s none of my damn business, OK? It’s just–it does seem like maybe there’s a way to get past it.

Well, Stefan’s infidelity isn’t the only thing that he and I need to get past.

What else?

I may have escalated the situation when I slept with EJ.

[dramatic music]

You what–what?

I know. I know, it was really stupid. But I was so angry, Rafe. I was so hurt.

OK, there is hurt, and there is angry, and then there is completely insane. You hate EJ. He sent you to prison. Why in God’s name would you sleep with him?

It was Connie’s idea.

Wait. What? Connie Vininski, the homicidal maniac? She told you to sleep with EJ?

Well, not exactly.

[sighs] She told me I should get back at Stefan by cheating on him like he cheated on me. You know, like an eye for an eye type of thing.

Oh, my God. And you listened to her.

Well, in my defense, I didn’t know that she was a homicidal maniac when she suggested it, nor did I know that she was hell-bent on ruining my life. And honestly, it didn’t exactly seem like bad advice at the time.

Didn’t seem like bad advice to sleep with your husband’s brother, the man who sent you to prison? I mean, for God’s sake, Gabi.

Look, I had to do something, OK? I couldn’t stop thinking about Stefan sleeping with Ava. I couldn’t stop picturing it.

As hard as I tried, I couldn’t get that disgusting image of the two of them in bed together out of my mind. It was, like, on a constant loop in my brain.

Uh-huh.

Uh-huh. That’s all you have to say?

I’m just wondering, did sleeping with EJ, someone you hate, someone who sent you to prison, who is not only a despicable, amoral human being but your husband’s brother, did that– did that make you feel better? Did that get rid of this disgusting image that was in your head?

Honestly, no.

No matter what I do, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to stop picturing Stefan having sex with that woman.

Fine.

[tense music]

[sighs]

One more thing. You mentioned that whole thing about my wife throwing herself at you. And that may have been true at one time, but she admitted to me that that was the only time that it happened and that she was not interested in coming back for more.

[clears throat] Yes, that’s true. There was only ever that one time.

[groans] However, what is not true is that Gabi wasn’t interested in… coming back for more, as you put it.

You see, your wife did come to my room again, hoping it could happen again, since the first time was so– whew–so satisfying.

However, I turned her down… out of respect for you, brother.

Although, even so, I doubt you’ll ever be able to get that image out of your head…

Of said one time.

Am I right?

[chuckles]

[sighs]

OK. OK, you’re right. The longer we wait to tell the kids, the greater the risk of them finding out from someone else. And it would be very hurtful for them to find out from a stranger or God knows who, not to mention keeping something like that from them, even if it is amazing news.

And so?

[dramatic music]

I will tell the kids.

Oh, thanks. Thanks, darling. That’s all I wanted to hear. Oh.

Hey. What a surprise. What are you two doing here?

Nothing, I was taking Felicity to feed the ducks.

I got you a cronut.

Oh, from Sweet Bits?

Mm-hmm.

Great. Thanks, Feliss.

So what are you– what are you– what are you guys doing, anyway? I mean, you mentioned you had an important meeting.

I did, but it finished early. And since I knew you were picking up Felicity, I figured I had time to take a walk, and I ran into… one of my patients. Guys, this is Abigail Deveraux. Abigail, this is my brother, Aaron, and my sister, Felicity.

It’s nice to meet you guys.

Yeah, nice to meet you too.

You look familiar.

So I thought you said you were getting sprung from this joint. Where’s your ride?

[phone beeps]

Oh. Actually, it’s about to arrive.

[chuckles] Jada’s on her way.

That’s great.

Yeah.

[dramatic music]

Rafe, in spite of, well, the discussion that we just had…

I know that everything you said came from a caring place.

Yeah, it did. You know, I didn’t mean to be hard on you. It’s just… I love you. I love you, and I want you to be happy.

I want the same for you.

And I am so happy that you’re getting out of here any minute and that you’re all right.

Yeah. You and me both. Yeah. And whenever you get out of here, I just want you to know you always have a home with me. Don’t you forget that, OK?

Don’t you ever forget, OK? I love you.

I love you too.

OK. See you.

[laughs]

[sighs]

You think I look familiar? Huh.

Well, I’m pretty sure we haven’t met.

I guess she just has one of those faces. And hey, I should probably be getting back to the hospital. See you at home for dinner?

Yeah. All right. See you later. Good to meet you, Abigail.

Yeah, you too.

I–I– I can’t believe– I can’t believe I just saw my little brother and little sister after all this time and they didn’t–they didn’t even know it was me. I mean–

Understandable.

No, of course, with the plastic surgery, yes, I look completely different, but–

Mark, I miss them.

They’re great kids.

[sighs] Felicity, I mean, she didn’t recognize me, but she– she thought I looked familiar. I mean, she sensed something. She sensed it was me.

[phone ringing] Oh.

It’s Chad.

Hi, Chad. Is everything OK?

Yeah, everything’s fine, but we need to talk. Can you come over to the house?

[knock at door]

[dramatic music]

Don’t worry, Mom. We’re gonna get you out of this. I promise we’re gonna save you.

Oh, my God. What are you still doing here? I thought you said you had to go back to the hospital.

I do. I just got a phone call from a patient I had to take. You guys weren’t gone very long. How were the ducks?

They were really hungry.

Right? They always are.

So… did your “patient” leave? What was her name again?

Abigail. Yeah, she had to go.

I still think she looked familiar.

You got here quick.

I came as fast as I could. I’m assuming the kids aren’t here.

No. Julie took them to Sweet Bits.

Right. Yeah. Good.

That’s why I wanted you to come over. When the kids get home, I’m gonna tell them the truth.

I want us to tell them that their mother is alive.

[phone rings]

Commissioner Hernandez, what a surprise. I thought you were in a coma.

Yeah, well, I woke up.

Oh, yes. I do believe I heard rumors to that effect. Not that anyone would know the difference.

[laughs] What can I do for you?

You stupid son of a bitch, you know exactly why I’m calling. I heard about you getting involved with my sister. And I am warning you, you stay the hell away from her and out of her marriage.

Is that a threat, Commissioner?

Go to hell.

[dial tone hums]

Oof. Guess he didn’t get the memo that there will soon be no marriage to stay out of, that that marriage is doomed.
