Billy: Oh, look who’s here. Follow my lead. Hey, there. How’s the happy couple? Huh? How’s married life? How’s newlywed life?

Victoria: Well, that’s a very interesting question, given the things that you said about Ashland and me when we spoke earlier.

Lily: Uh, you know what? Let’s go find our table.

Billy: No, I’m fine, I’m fine. I mean, look, look, I am a man of leisure, okay? I get to eat and do whatever i want whenever I want. Eat, do whatever. And now that the kids are gonna be going to boarding school, i really have no responsibility at all, so, wow, that’s impressive. You guys are giving the side-eye like you’ve been married for decades. I’m fine. In fact, I am so good, I owe you a thank-you. So, Ashland, come with me, we’re getting a drink. Come on.

**************

Sharon: Even if he hadn’t just been through a terrible ordeal, it wouldn’t be unusual for him to take paternity leave.

Rey: Well, I think that’s up for him and Paul to figure out. And I do want him to do whatever’s best for him. But I have to admit, I want my partner back.

Sharon: Aww, you lonely without your bff?

Rey: Oh! A cop and his partner have a special bond. We have each other’s backs in life-and-death situations.

Sharon: Not to mention all the hours in the squad car talking about sports.

Rey: Don’t make light of that. I was 75% successful in turning Chance into a soccer fan, and i plan to finish that project.

Sharon: Well, I hope you achieve that goal because, otherwise, you’re gonna go back to trying to make me watch.

Rey: Oh, I’m never gonna give up on that.

Sharon: Look, one day soon, you’re gonna be on a stakeout with Chance, talking about World Cup, and then you’re gonna spot the bad guys and you’re gonna spring into action.

Rey: Yeah, just like that.

Connor: I can’t believe it! Everything’s exactly the same as the last time I saw it.

Chelsea: It’s good to be back, isn’t it?

Connor: It’s the best.

Adam: Well, you have two homes. You can stay here sometimes with your mom and the rest of the time at the ranch with me.

Connor: Does that mean we’ll get a tree for here, too?

Chelsea: You know, I hadn’t really thought about it yet.

Connor: It’s not christmas without a tree. We have to.

Adam: Well, your granddad, he always has a giant one. He always does.

Connor: This is going to be the coolest christmas ever. Not because of the trees and presents, but because mom is finally at home again.

Chelsea: Seeing you is the best part. You are the greatest gift. Oh! [ Laughs ]

Adam: Yeah, is it as bouncy as you remember?

Connor: Yeah. You know what else I remember? Pizza and movie nights. First one, I chose the movie, but dad burned dinner so we had to order out for pizza.

Chelsea: Yes, and we all fell asleep before the movie ended.

Adam: [ Laughs ] That was — it was — it was so much fun.

Connor: I’ll never forget that. We were all together. We were a real family. It was the best, wasn’t it?

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Chloe: Sally? What the hell are you doing?

Noah: Alright, I know we are a week away from christmas, but why should that stop me from giving you an early gift?

Mariah: Ooh, what did you get me?

Noah: Actually, I was talking to tessa. Sorry, you’ll have to wait just like everyone else.

Mariah: Oh, please, please let it be another scented candle because you can’t think of anything else.

Tessa: [ Chuckles ]

Noah: You know, a lot of thought went into those, actually. Anyways, I’ve been working on the album cover using the image we all liked best, and voil.

Tessa: Oh! This is so exciting. Oh, wow.

Noah: I superimposed your smile over a cityscape.

Mariah: That’s beautiful. You’re beautiful.

Noah: And brilliant.

Mariah: Why? Because she hired you to take her photo for the album?

Tessa: Yeah, I mean, there’s no denying she has good taste. We’ll leave it at that.

Tessa: [ Chuckles ]

Noah: So what do you think?

Tessa: I love it.

Mariah: Yeah, there’s just this area over — over here that I think could use a little bit of work. It’s the blue, it kind of seems oversaturated.

Noah: That’s my favorite part. You don’t like it?

Mariah: Well, what if we tried a different color?

Noah: Different color, really?

Mariah: Well, I know that you are the artistic genius here, but it doesn’t hurt to have another set of eyes.

Noah: Depends on the eyes.

Mariah: Noah, I love you and I love your work. It’s just if you keep the picture as-is, it sort of loses its familiarity. You know, and it’s — honestly, it’s a little — little scary. And, uh, you know, that’s just not tessa and her music.

Noah: Well, when did you get so opinionated? Tess, do you mind telling your manager that I know what I’m doing?

Mariah: Excuse me. Would you mind telling your photographer — my brother — that it’s always valuable to have other people’s opinions, especially the opinions of somebody who, I don’t know, is in a relationship with the singer.

Noah: What do you think, tess?

Tessa: Uh…um, I — I — uh, I’m not sure, you know? I-I don’t — I could see that it needs work, but I’m sure that we will find something that we are all gonna be happy with.

Noah: Oh, that was very diplomatic of you. Let’s get real here. Are you siding with her or with me? Not only do centrum multigummies

taste great.

Sally: I was just gonna have a bite and grab something hot to drink. Join me.

Chloe: Yeah, I’ve been watching you for the last few minutes, all bundled up like maybe you didn’t want someone to recognize you, and it looks a little weird. And I have learned to be suspicious of weird. So who are you hiding from?

Sally: Well, there is a simple explanation. I was woefully unprepared for my first wisconsin winter last year — and mistake that I swore I wouldn’t repeat.

Chloe: And you’re rocking a pair of sunglasses because you didn’t want to go snow-blind? And you’re wearing this wig because, what, you want to know if blondes really do have more fun? You know, I saw billy and lily leaving when I was coming in, and then I notice you over here bundled up like mrs. Claus in spite of the fact that you’re in a toasty restaurant, and now you are taking your layers off even though I know you’ve been in here for a while. And you were smiling at your phone like the cat who caught the canary.

Sally: We have been generating a lot of buzz on social media. People are loving our videos.

Chloe: Listen. I have got all the time in the world, and I’m not going anywhere until I get the truth.

Sally: Fine. Just to get you off my back.

Adam: You are gonna have so many pizza and movie nights now that your mom’s home.

Connor: Yeah?

Adam: Yeah. Pepperoni, sausage, anime, action — you name it.

Connor: And I get to stay up as late as I want?

Chelsea: [ Laughs ] Don’t push it. You still have a bedtime, mister. Why don’t you run upstairs and see if everything looks the way you left it, hmm?

Connor: Maybe my old soccer ball’s up there. I’ll bet it’s flat by now.

Adam: Well, I’ll take it to the ranch. I’ll pump it up for you.

Connor: Cool.

Chelsea: [ Chuckles ] Oh, the energy that kid has amazes me.

[ Sighs ] But it’s nice to see him so happy.

Adam: Well, like I said earlier, he, um — he missed you.

Chelsea: You handled that well. Managing his expectations about the three of us.

Adam: Well, the most important thing is he knows that both of us love him and that’ll never change, no matter what.

Chelsea: I completely agree. It’s strange being back here.

Adam: Part of the reason i moved to the ranch. Just too many memories.

Chelsea: And which memories were the hardest to handle? What we had…or what it turned into?

Tessa: No, mnh-mnh. No! I am not doing it. I’m not gonna choose sides.

Noah: I’m sorry, I’m sorry. It was cruel. I shouldn’t have put you in that position. I was just messing with you guys.

Mariah: What? That — that was a joke? The big eyeball with the blue splotches? Are you — are you kidding me?

Noah: Yeah, I just added in those elements ’cause I knew one or both of you would hate it, and I wanted to see your reaction.

Tessa: [ Laughs ] Noah! That’s so wrong.

Noah: I had to see how passionate you were about the work.

Tessa: [ Laughs ]

Mariah: Unforgivable. Do you think da vinci would do that or ansel adams?

Noah: Oh, you think I’m that good, huh?

Mariah: Oh, that’s very funny.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Tessa: You know what? It was actually was funny. It was nice to see you so invested. You were about to go to war with a world-famous artist just to protect my image.

Mariah: Anytime you need me to take this guy down a notch, I’m your gal.

Noah: Oh, I’d like to see you try.

Mariah: Oh, anytime, anywhere, buddy.

[ Laughs ]

Faith: Is this a private debate or can anyone join in?

Mariah: Oh, faith, thank goodness.

Noah: We are having creative differences.

Tessa: And you’ll stay out of it if you know what’s good for you.

Faith: Done.

Noah: You must be moses.

Moses: Yeah.

Faith: Moses, this is my brother noah.

Noah: It’s nice to meet you.

Moses: You too. Faith has shown me some of your work.

Noah: Ah, what’d you think?

Moses: Oh, I loved it. Pretty cool stuff.

Mariah: Made by somebody so incredibly uncool, it’s a mystery.

Noah: Oh, that’s very funny. I’ll get back to you. So what are you guys up to?

Moses: Oh, just hanging out.

Noah: You must be a saint. Last time I hung out with faith, she hogged all the popcorn at the movies, ate all of my fries at lunch —

Faith: Wait, never happened.

Noah: Will you two back me up on this?

Tessa: I do recall a couple incidents of brownie thievery.

Faith: I did not.

Tessa: Mm, well, it was at this very table, hmm? Remember? We ordered two brownies, fresh from the oven — perfect, fudgy, delicious. I go up to order drinks, I come back, and one is gone and the other has a bite taken out of it.

Faith: Oh. Yeah, maybe that did happen.

Noah: The truth.

Faith: But I was hungry and it was so warm and so good.

Tessa: Well, I swore that very day that I would never leave a snack unattended with faith around.

Moses: I had no idea.

Faith: I am not that bad, really.

Mariah: Hey, faith gives as much as she gets. She always shares her tips with the baristas when she works here. She’s an amazing sister, and I’m very lucky.

Tessa: Well, your little sister is a snack destroyer.

[ Laughter ]

Faith: You two are killing me. Mariah, you are so protective. And, tessa, you are going for the jugular. You two are like the super-sweet and corny parents that you always see in the sitcoms.

Noah: You know, in the sitcom version of this, mariah, the sweet mom, would be going on and on about how thoughtful and generous faith is, all the while she’d be right behind you stealing fries from your plate till it’s empty.

Faith: And tessa, the tough mom, is watching the whole thing, trying to call mariah’s attention to the theft going on right under her nose, but she just can’t interrupt the heartwarming parental lecture.

Noah: Yeah, you guys would be the perfect pair of parents — the businesswoman who only sees the good and the singer who sees everything. You’d be a total pushover.

Tessa: And tessa would like to go back to talking about her album cover.

Moses: Oh, devon’s been playing your music at the house.

Tessa: Okay, what — what do you think?

Moses: I love it.

Faith: Yeah, he really does. I’ve heard him singing a couple of your songs when he thinks no one’s listening.

Moses: Oh, wow, all the secrets are coming out.

Faith: Pretty cool that you’ve gone back to devon’s label for your new album.

Moses: Yeah, and it’s been great working there, having my internship, because I get to help out on it.

Tessa: Well, I feel incredibly lucky to have devon in my corner. He’s been so supportive and he’s given me so much freedom on this project. He knows where I’ve been, where I’m trying to go, and — and i honestly don’t know where i would be without him.

Mariah: Hey, is it premature to give faith and moses a look at what you’re doing?

Noah: Show them the cover art?

Mariah: Mm.

Tessa: Uh, I mean, yeah. As long as we swear them to secrecy.

Moses: Oh, I promise I won’t tell a soul.

Mariah: Okay.

Tessa: Oh, you’re leaving?

Mariah: Yeah, I got some reports to file back at jabot.

Tessa: Oh, right now?

Mariah: Yeah, but I’ll see you at home. Okay, see you, everybody.

Noah: See ya.

Tessa: Okay.

Noah: Anyways, I took the original photo, added some layers, some color, wanted to restructure a little bit. Tessa?

Tessa: Huh? Oh, sorry, what’d I miss?

Noah: I’m just showing our captive audience how I’m doing my part to catapult your album to the top of the charts.

Tessa: Oh, that.

Moses: Wow, this is some really next-level stuff.

Faith: Isn’t it? Our very own star.

Noah: Wait, are you talking about me or her?

Tessa: Uh, me, obviously.

Noah: Oh.

[ Laughter ]

Adam: Being here with you is stirring up all the memories. When things were great. When they weren’T.

Chelsea: I feel the same way. I just keep playing it over in my mind, wondering where it all went wrong. I mean, what — what we could’ve done differently.

Adam: Well, it wasn’t any one thing. And there’s no going back, chelsea.

Chelsea: We loved each other, adam. So much. There was so much good. There was so much great, actually. I mean, look at our son.

Adam: He has both his parents in the same town again and making him feel secure, that is the most important thing, and we’re doing that.

Chelsea: We are.

Adam: Well, I should get back to the office and let you get settled in.

Chelsea: How’s it working out with chloe? And sally?

Sally: Alright, you found me out. I was spying on billy.

Chloe: Sally, what were you thinking? Why would you do that?

Sally: Well, because, as you know, adam and billy are in a battle royale, and if billy decides to retaliate on newman media, everything that you and I have accomplished could go up in flames.

Chloe: Oh. So you were going undercover to save the fashion division.

Sally: Yes.

Chloe: If you want to do something for us, stick to designing. Do something creative. Network.

Sally: Okay, I tried talking to billy, but he wouldn’t tell me what’s going on.

Chloe: You work for the enemy, sally. I mean, what, did you think that you could connect with him in some meaningful way? That he would be so moved by your interest that he would just have to confess?

Sally: Okay, well, I spoke to him with real empathy, something that nobody else is showing him right now, and trust me, he responded.

Chloe: And? What’d he say? Did he bare his soul?

Sally: No. But it was worth a try. But I did walk away from our little run-in even more worried about what billy is capable of, so i decided to take an indirect approach and just follow him around and see what he’s planning.

Chloe: Okay, you don’t realize what you’re getting yourself mixed up in.

Sally: I know billy and adam hate each other. Adam is still furious with billy about that hit piece that he published, and billy will never forgive adam for the death of your daughter. Even though adam has changed.

Chloe: Do you even hear yourself?

Sally: What are you talking about?

Chloe: You said that you weren’t interested in adam. It was strictly business. Nothing personal, and now he’s got you running around, playing harriet the spy.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Chloe: He’s pulling at your strings. You’re just like his little puppet.

Sally: It’s not like that.

Chloe: It’s exactly like that. Adam is using you. Some people have joint pain,

Noah: And I’m sure I’ll make some more adjustments, play with some new elements, add some new colors maybe.

Faith: I can’t wait to see what the cover looks like when it’s finished.

Moses: Yeah, it’s pretty cool how you and tessa are working together on this. It’s like you guys have a whole vision for the album.

Noah: Yeah, well, tessa’s music blows me away.

Tessa: Well, I love how noah’s photographs always capture things that most people wouldn’t notice.

Noah: It was an easy assignment. All I had to do was capture the feelings I get when I listen to your songs.

Tessa: [ Chuckles ]

Faith: Let’s go grab a table in the no-work zone. I’ll leave you two artistes to get back to creating your masterpiece.

Moses: Well, I can’t wait to see the final product.

Noah: See ya, man.

Tessa: Alright, where were we?

Noah: You know, I couldn’t help but notice how mariah took off. It was kind of like she couldn’t get out of here fast enough. I really hope I didn’t upset her with my lame attempt at a joke.

Tessa: Oh, no, I don’t think it was that. I think she just has, um… a lot going on right now.

Noah: So do you. You okay?

Tessa: Yeah, of course. Why wouldn’t I be? I have so much to be grateful for.

Noah: You have a lot to be proud of. You worked really hard and you put your heart and soul into your music and you made something really beautiful. It inspired me. I think the album cover should reflect that. Celebrate it. It’s something that should be celebrated.

Mariah: [ Sighs ]

Louise: Oh, hi.

Mariah: Hi, louise. Uh, I was just in the neighborhood and I wanted to stop by and see abby.

Louise: Oh, I’m sorry, abby and chance aren’t home right now.

Mariah: Oh. Yeah, I probably should have called before I just came by. What about dominic? Is he here? I haven’t seen him in a while.

Louise: He’s out with his parents.

Mariah: Yeah, yeah, of course. Uh…

Louise: I will let them know that you dropped by.

Mariah: No, no, it’s fine, it’s fine. It’s not a big deal. I’ll just catch up with them later. Thanks.

Louise: Yeah. Have a good day.

Mariah: Yeah, you too.

Sally: Adam is not using me. He doesn’t even know that I’m the one that’s been following billy. I’ve been sending him videos and photos anonymously.

Chloe: And you don’t think that he knows that you’re the one who’s behind all of this?

Sally: It was my idea.

Chloe: Are you sure about that? Are you sure you didn’t have any discussion with adam about the threat that billy poses? Or about maybe spying on him? You know what adam is capable of and how manipulative he can be. But you think that you’re special. You think that you can get close with him without getting burned, that you’re different.

Sally: I know what I’m doing.

Chloe: You’re trying to impress him. Show him how far you can go. And you are just playing right into his hands, and all this talk about him wanting to be a better man and better father, blah, blah, blah.

Sally: He is.

Chloe: Look at what he just did to billy. Adam and victor, they took away his job, and that wasn’t enough. He has to knock him while he’s down.

Sally: Billy brought this whole thing on himself by publishing that story about locke. It’s because of him that chanccomm nearly got sued out of existence. That is why billy had to walk away. But he doesn’t want to take responsibility for that, so he’s blaming adam. And now billy is spiraling out of control, he’s plotting some sort of revenge, and he’s targeting adam and us. The threat is real.

Chloe: You are right in the middle of something potentially dangerous, and adam is egging you on.

Sally: He tried to talk me out of it.

Chloe: Well, apparently not hard enough. This is what I have been warning you about time and time again. People get close and they get pulled in to adam’s orbit, and they end up getting hurt. Badly.

Sally: You mean chelsea. That’s what this whole thing is really about, why you’re so upset.

Chloe: I could be talking about a number of people. And what happened to chelsea should serve as a lesson and a warning, and by the way, she’s back in genoa city. So you have to make the decision — are you done playing these games with adam or are you gonna be part of our team?

Adam: If you want to know how chloe’s doing, ask her. I gave her total autonomy over the division. But I have no complaints.

Chelsea: I mean, you haven’t been completely hands off. You flew sally to tuscany for victoria’s wedding.

Adam: Because she made that dress on spec with newman media money. I was already going there, so i just gave her a lift. And it turned out to be a good thing because it gave a real boost to the platform.

Chelsea: That’s great.

Adam: Chloe and sally make a pretty good team. I know that chloe has her heart set on you joining them.

Chelsea: I need to discuss the details with her, and I have to meet sally in person.

Adam: Why, are you afraid you’re not gonna get along?

Chelsea: It’s a possibility. We may have different sensibilities. We may work differently. Those little details can be deal-breakers.

Adam: Okay, just take things one step at a time. There’s no rush, no pressure.

Chelsea: Thank you.

Adam: Just focus on what’s important.

Chelsea: Connor.

Adam: Exactly. Well, I’m gonna go say goodbye to him, and then I should get back to work.

Chelsea: Sure.

[ Sighs ]

Trelegy for copd.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Adam: Yeah, don’t bother knocking. Just come on in.

Chloe: I decided we all need to meet.

Adam: Does this have anything to do with the fact that chelsea is back?

Chloe: Good guess. I’ve seen her, and I’ve shared the good news with sally. Chelsea looks fantastic. Mind-blowing.

Adam: Mm-hmm. She really does. It’s good to see her so happy again.

Chloe: She’s in a good place, so I want to get her up to speed and working here with us where she belongs.

Adam: Yeah, I know it’s always been your plan, your hope to have you and chelsea working together again.

Chloe: It’s the only reason why I accepted your job offer to run the fashion division in the first place. For her to have a safe place to land. This is something that you and i both wanted. Not only because it’s the right thing to do, which it is, but because she’s also a hell of a designer.

Adam: Yeah, just after speaking with her, I’m just not sure if she wants this as much as we want her to want it.

Chloe: What are you saying?

Adam: I’m saying if chelsea can’t commit to this, we have to be ready to move forward without her.

Moses: It’s been fun, but i have to get going before it gets too late.

Faith: Wait, where are you going?

Moses: Oh, just — just running a few errands.

Faith: I’ll come with you.

Moses: No, I — I don’t want to break up the party. You and noah are hanging out.

Faith: I can do that anytime.

Moses: No, it’s fine. I’ll be good on my own. I just have to get some christmas gifts.

Faith: I love buying gifts.

Noah: He’s shopping for you, genius.

Faith: Oops. Okay, yeah, I’ll sit this one out. But call me later.

Moses: Yeah, of course. Nice meeting you, man.

Noah: You too.

Faith: Good luck! Thank you.

Noah: For what?

Faith: For not taking moses aside and giving him some kind of big brother talk or staring him down or asking him a million embarrassing questions.

Noah: I was fighting my protective instincts. Come on, ease my mind. Tell me I have nothing to worry about.

Faith: He’s respectful. He’s kind. He’s smart. And if you really need to know, he is the easiest and happiest part of my day. And my days are already pretty good to begin with lately.

Noah: Well, I’m glad to hear it. And I promise I’ll try not to embarrass you too much.

Faith: That’s all that I’ll get from you.

Noah: I’m just a little gun-shy lately. Maybe I’m projecting. Why are you looking at me like that?

Faith: I’m wondering if I can ask you something. And before you answer, know that I promise I will not tell anyone what you say, so you can be honest with me.

Noah: Yeah, sure.

Faith: Do you still have feelings for tessa?

[ Door opens ]

Mariah: Hey.

Tessa: Hey. Hey, so the work you had didn’t take too long?

Mariah: Uh, I didn’t actually go to jabot.

Tessa: Ah.

Mariah: [ Sighs ] Yeah, I just, uh, had to get out of there.

Tessa: Because of everything faith said about us being parents?

Mariah: She was just joking around. And I can’t expect everybody to have baby-free conversations just because of me. You know, she doesn’t even know that we were talking about being parents.

Tessa: You know you can talk to me about anything, right? I’m not gonna be upset.

Mariah: I just can’t stop thinking about what it would be like if we were parents. How incredible we could be. Maybe it’s another refill at your favorite diner… understa but chelsea’s been dragging

Chloe: No question. Chelsea is definitely joining the fashion platform.

Adam: And I hope that that happens, for all our sakes. But chelsea’s been dragging her feet all this time and she hasn’t committed to this, so i just want you to be prepared if she doesn’t take the job.

Chloe: Chelsea is understandably cautious about leaping back into life in genoa city. She needs to have certain guarantees about the situation that she’s going to be walking into. No unwelcome surprises, and i think that’s a good thing and i imagine you would, too. That you want to have the best for her and set her up for success.

Adam: Of course, of course i do. I’m hoping that this will be a great thing for her.

Chloe: Well, I’m glad to hear you say that because chelsea just wants to know that she is coming to work in a positive and supportive environment and that people that are working here won’t be distracted by personal baggage and pointless vendettas.

Adam: Point taken.

Chloe: And chelsea wants to meet sally face-to-face soon.

Sally: Yeah, looking forward to it. I have no doubt that you, me, and chelsea will be a genius collaboration.

Chloe: Great. Well, then if we’re all on the same page, I’m gonna get back to work.

Adam: Mm. Sally, if you have a minute, something I’d like to go over with you.

Sally: I will catch up with you later. Why do I feel like I’m being called to the principal’s office? Am I in some kind of trouble?

Noah: Well, someone’s been reading too much young adult fiction. Everywhere you look, you’re trying to find a love story. Why would you think that I still have feelings for tessa?

Faith: Because I have eyes.

Noah: [ Scoffs ] Look, tessa and mariah are madly in love with each other, and she and I broke up a long time ago.

Faith: I know all of that, but I also know you, even though you’ve been overseas and you’re a wunderkind in the art world.

Noah: “Wunderkind”? That’s a big word for you.

Faith: I know more than you think. And I saw the way you were looking at tessa when you were talking.

Noah: Faith, you’re imagining things.

Faith: I caught a vibe.

Noah: Oh, yeah, and what vibe would that be?

Faith: Like you were thinking, “what if?” And this isn’t the first time that I’ve noticed it.

Noah: [ Sighs ] Nothing could be further from the truth.

Mariah: I stopped by abby’s to see the baby, but nobody was there. It was just the nanny.

Tessa: Okay.

Mariah: And I just felt so stupid. Standing there in the doorway like a stranger wanting to see somebody else’s baby.

Tessa: Well, you’re an integral part of that child’s life. You always will be.

Mariah: I know. And that’s everybody keeps saying to me. You know, “you’re always gonna have a special bond with him and the nickname you gave him will just be between the two of you.” But he’s not bowie. He’s dominic. He’s abby and chance’s son. Even though I carried him and i brought him into the world. And believe me, I — I never thought that I would be the type of person that was thinking about having kids or wanting kids. I mean, I didn’t think I had a maternal bone in my body. Sometimes I don’t even recognize who I am now. But if you told me right now that you were ready to start having a family, I mean, it would be like my birthday and christmas and every holiday and best day of my life rolled into one. But this is not who I was when we met at all.

Tessa: Well, there’s nothing wrong with that. We’ve both changed.

Mariah: I know, but you’re in a totally different place with this than I am, and I accept that. I — I really, really do. So let’s just talk about something else for once, please. Like, you know, what are we gonna get for dinner?

[ Laughs ]

Tessa: Mariah, that’s not fair. You can’t just say all of that and not give me a chance to respond.

Most of your immune system

lives right in your gut.

Faith: I may be young, but i have seen more breakups and divorces than I care to count.

Noah: That you have.

Faith: I know things.

Noah: Yeah, too many things. But I promise you, tessa and i are just friends.

Faith: Sometimes when people break up, they aren’t totally over each other.

Noah: There are no residual feelings between me and her. We get along, we’re both creatives. That’s why we can still work together.

Faith: So you don’t look like a lovesick puppy every time you see her?

Noah: No. No. Oh, no, that’s just my “recently heartbroken by a woman in london” look.

Faith: Hmm.

Noah: Yeah. Look, I’m glad tessa and I can still get along. It’s restored my faith in humanity.

Faith: Yeah, but —

Noah: But nothing. I’m not interested in tessa in the way that you mean. So find someone else to worry about, okay?

Faith: Yeah.

Noah: So, now that I know this is a meeting of the concerned siblings club, why don’t you tell me more about you and moses?

Faith: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, yeah, nice try.

Noah: Well, it was worth a shot.

Faith: [ Chuckles ]

Tessa: Thank you for being so honest. I don’t want you to feel like you have to hide anything from me — ever.

Mariah: But I’m going through something that you’re just not right now.

Tessa: But whatever you’re feeling, I feel it. We’re connected. If you hurt, I hurt. And I may not have gone through everything that you’ve gone through lately and I may not be, um…

Mariah: An unholy mess?

Tessa: But you’re my beautiful unholy mess. I may not be as certain about the idea of having a baby, and i may not be ready to commit to it quite yet, but I am willing to talk more about it.

Mariah: Really?

Tessa: Yeah.

Mariah: [ Chuckles ]

Chloe: Okay, so I know you just got home and here I am pounding on your door, but I’m only here because I need an answer from you and I need that answer to be yes. I’m not trying to put any undue pressure on you, but please, please, come work with me at newman fashion.

Chelsea: You’re impossible. I told you I need time to think about it.

Chloe: I’ve given you months. I’ve done all the heavy lifting. I got the fashion platform off the ground. I’ve been working with adam, for god’s sakes. This is what it was all about, so you and I could work with each other again. What else do you need to know? We can get started. Right this second.

Chelsea: I don’t want to disappoint you.

Chloe: Okay, then don’T.

Chelsea: But I don’t feel like that’s the best move for me.

Chloe: [ Scoffs ] I have been saving this spot for you by my side. Why don’t you want to do it?

Chelsea: Chloe, maybe being away gave me time to think — you know, time to think about what I did and what I had become. And now that I’m back, I’m starting to realize I’m disconnected to everyone and everything in this town except connor. So it’s forcing me to realize maybe I don’t belong in genoa city anymore.

Chloe: What?

Adam: No, you’re not in any kind of trouble. I, um, just had something that i wanted to run by you.

Sally: Well, I’m all ears.

Adam: I’ve been receiving mysterious texts and videos of billy in situations that don’t exactly paint him in the best light.

Sally: Do you know who sent them?

Adam: It’s from an anonymous source.

Sally: Fascinating.

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Sally: Someone like that, who’s willing to stick their neck and wants nothing in return sounds pretty special.

Adam: Well, the information has definitely piqued my interest.

Sally: Well, I’m sure your anonymous source would be glad to hear that.

Adam: Billy might be planning a counterattack against newman media, so it is good to have an arsenal at the ready.

Sally: Mm-hmm. Well, I brought up that very idea with you.

Adam: Which is why I can talk to you about this. Because I can’t exactly trust this anonymous source. Could be walking into a trap.

Sally: Well, anything’s possible, I suppose. But it does sound like they have your best interests at heart.

Adam: Well, it’s someone local, that’s clear. There’s just not many people that would go to that extremes to gather intel on billy and send it to me. Do you have any thoughts on who that might be?

Abby: Guess what Dominic just told me.

Chance: What’d he say?

Abby: Well, he said he has his cutest little outfit on and he wants to go out right now, just the three of us. What do you think?

Chance: Oh, wow. That’s quite the speech for a kid his age.

Abby: Well, yeah, he’s clearly a genius. I was thinking we could go to Society. I could show the two of you off. Oh, and you can meet my new head chef.

Chance: Oh, I didn’t know you had one.

Abby: Yes, I will fill you in on the way. I’m letting her put her stamp on the menu, and I want you to try her dishes.

Chance: Yeah, it sounds fun, baby. I just, uh…I don’t know if it’s a good idea.

****************

Nick: So, I’ve got a dilemma, and I’m thinking you might be able to help me.

Sharon: Okay. What?

Nick: Christian needs a costume for his holiday sing thing, and I was wondering if you had any of Noah’s old costumes. If I remember correctly, when Noah was around Christian’s age, he was like a wise man and maybe an elf?

Sharon: [ Laughs ]

Nick: What are you laughing at?

Sharon: Um, in case you haven’t noticed, our son is now a grown man, so, no, I did not keep any of those costumes. And had I, I know they would be a wreck by now.

Adam: Little early for that, don’t you think?

Billy: You don’t want to know what I’m thinking, Adam. Adam Newman, thank you for your — your guidance and your insight, Mr. Media Mogul. Oh, hold on a second. Who’s that? Oh! Your daddy’s calling for you.

Adam: Yeah. Drinking alone at the bar — why am I not surprised, Billy? I mean, after such a swift and spectacular fall, no one could blame you for losing it a bit.

*************

Billy: You know, I’d think you’d be proud of me. I have a full-time job — making sure you and Victor don’t get your grimy little fingers all over ChanceCom.

Adam: Well, you don’t have any leverage left in that department. In fact, you don’t have any leverage left in any department, do you?

Billy: Goodbye, Adam.

Adam: Okay, I mean, Billy, why couldn’t you just leave well enough alone? You just had to mess with victoria’s future. I mean, did you really think that she would appreciate that you still have a protective streak in you? Well, surprise — she didn’t.

Billy: [ Scoffs ] I said goodbye.

Adam: And we know Ashland doesn’t respond well to attacks, so you pretty much just set yourself up. And now you’ve blown your one chance to prove that you could be a leader.

Billy: Yeah. So I guess I’m the lost cause that you think I am.

Adam: [ Sighs ] It’s too bad, especially given everything you’ve already had to face.

Billy: Honestly, it doesn’t matter what I face. It’s still better than being you. Excuse me. Can I get another apple juice please? Thanks.

Victoria: How about just give me one clue?

Ashland: Alright, just one. I actually was making arrangements for a present.

Victoria: Oh, really?! For me?

Ashland: Well, who else? And that is all I’m going to say about it.

Victoria: [ Gasps ] Person, place, or thing? Can it fit under the Christmas tree?

[ Both laugh ]

Ashland: Well, look at you. That’s a nice try.

Victoria: Oh, well, if at first you don’t succeed… come on. Tell me. You know you want to tell me. Just whisper it in my ear. I promise you, I won’t tell a soul.

Ashland: God, you are so beautiful. And you break down all of my willpower. But it won’t work this time.

Victoria: I hope you don’t think that I’m giving up.

Ashland: [ Laughs ] Well, I will rebuff all of your futile attempts to break me down.

Victoria: You’re in rare form today.

Ashland: Well, this is a day that I haven’t had in quite a while. I feel happy and strong, and I think I owe it all to you and my new treatment.

************

Billy: Hi. Don’t you have a big, fancy conglomerate to rule over?

Victoria: Well, you know, even rulers get coffee breaks. I’m glad I ran into you. I was actually gonna call and see if you had time to meet.

Billy: Oh, I’ve got nothing but time. What’s going on?

Victoria: I, um, I just wanted to see how you were doing.

Billy: Fair to middlin’. I’ll be much better once I get out of here and have a little something stronger to drink than coffee.

Victoria: A little early, don’t you think?

Billy: Oh, I don’t know about that. It’s cocktail hour in Paris. Thinking after that, I’ll hit up a poker game and probably lose a small fortune. Then, maybe jump on a private jet and go to Vegas and just lose myself entirely because that’s what you expect me to do, right? And I wouldn’t want to disappoint.

Chelsea: Shouldn’t school be out by now? Where’s connor?

Adam: I promise, he will be home right on time.

Chelsea: “Home.” As in here. Right. How has the transition to the ranch been?

Adam: Well, when he got back from boarding school, I thought it would be important for him to have some stability and consistency, and living here has given him both.

Chelsea: And how’s it been for you, being so close to victor? And everybody else who lives on the property?

Adam: You’re asking about me and sharon.

Sharon: There you go. One for the road.

Rey: Thanks, love.

Sharon: You seem a bit on edge today. Are you working on a big case, putting away a bad guy?

Rey: The opposite, actually. Today I find out if my former partner will be my future partner.

Sharon: Chance.

Rey: He has a meeting this morning with the chief — earlier than planned.

Abby: So you’re going down to the station to meet with paul?

Chance: Yeah.

Abby: You don’t think it’s a little too soon?

Chance: No, no, it’s just a preliminary conversation. I promise, no stakeouts, no interrogations, nothing like that. We’re just gonna map out the timeline for my return.

Abby: So you’re still planning on easing back into work, right?

Chance: Absolutely, okay? I want to get as much time as i can with you and dominic. That’s my number-one priority.

Abby: Good, because I want as much uninterrupted quality time with you as I can get. I think it’ll be good for us and our family.

Chance: So do I, so do I. This is — this is the happiest I’ve been in a long time.

[ Both chuckle ]

Abby: So, um, where’d you go last night? I was a little bit worried when I woke up and saw a note that you were getting some air.

Chance: Oh.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Abby: Oh. I’m not expecting anyone.

Chance: Me neither. Christine.

Christine: [ Chuckles ] Chance, welcome back. I’ve got some big news.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Chance: I’m not okay. And — and it’s getting harder to pretend like I am.

Devon: Who you pretending for?

Chance: Feels like everyone.

Devon: Even abby?

Chance: I can talk to her about some of it, but not everything.

Devon: Well, that’s unfortunate, man, ’cause I know that she would want to know what’s going on with you.

Chance: She’d want to reassure me that everything is great and that I haven’t done anything wrong. And in her eyes, I’m the perfect husband and the perfect father.

Devon: You don’t see yourself like that?

Chance: It’s just not who i am, man. I let her down before our baby was even born. I mean, I failed her.

Devon: I don’t know how you figure that you failed anybody. You’re home. You made it. You’re alive. You know, you have a brand-new son. You got a great wife.

Chance: Do I deserve it? You know, I made commitments to abby and dominic. I’m gonna do everything that i can to try to live up to them. But — but the question is, can I?

Amanda: Hey. Is everything okay?

Devon: Hey. Yeah. Yeah, everything’s fine. Why?

Amanda: Because I think i know you pretty well at this point, and I can tell something’s weighing on you. I mean, last night was the first time you ever left while I was sleeping. Is something up?

Devon: Yeah, it’s chance. I’m — I’m worried about him.

Come on.

Do I need to pretreat my

laundry?

Devon: [ Sighs ] I ran into chance last night at society. And we had a conversation that didn’t really make me feel too comfortable.

Amanda: Why? What did he say?

Devon: He said he’s been feeling very guilty about abandoning abby throughout the entire pregnancy. Not to mention mariah getting kidnapped while she was carrying the child and him not knowing anything about it. And then on top of it all, while he was gone, you know, he lost every single person on his team, and he came back the only survivor.

Amanda: Wow. I mean, that is a lot to absorb in a short period of time. I think that his emotions are understandable.

Devon: No, I mean, yes. It’s to be expected. I don’t know how he could be in a good head space after what he went through. But he’s clearly struggling, you know? Struggling to find any kind of normalcy being back home, and that concerns me ’cause I don’t want it to affect dominic.

Sharon: I’m surprised that chance would want to return work so soon.

Rey: Well, apparently he got the all-clear from his doctor.

Sharon: I wasn’t thinking about his physical fitness.

Rey: You’re wondering if he’s emotionally ready.

Sharon: Being a police officer is a stressful job, but he’s also a new dad.

Rey: Mm.

Sharon: Even if he hadn’t just been through a terrible ordeal, it wouldn’t be unusual for him to take paternity leave.

Rey: Well, I think that’s up for him and paul to figure out. And I do want him to do whatever’s best for him. But I have to admit, I want my partner back.Le

Christine: So I got a call from my old boss. He thought I might want to be the one to share this news with you.

[ Sighs ] Thanks to the intel you provided, identifying the attackers of the safe house, the follow-up team was able to track them down and catch them.

Chance: You’re kidding.

Christine: No, wait, it gets better. The people that set the bomb revealed the location of the leader that you had been hunting down. He’s been apprehended, too, chance. This whole thing, it’s over.

Abby: Oh!

Chance: Wow, that is unbelievable to hear.

Abby: That’s a huge weight off of our shoulders, right?

Chance: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Was everyone involved arrested?

Christine: Yeah, I believe so. I mean, once they were getting interrogated, they all sort of turned on each other quickly. So that means this case is officially closed. It also means that you no longer have to have a security detail.

Abby: [ Sighs ] My god, babe, we are officially safe. That means we can finally have our lives back. Oh.

Chance: [ Chuckles ]

Ashland: I think I’m gonna turn down that offer of a drink.

Victoria: You seem to have had enough already.

Billy: Oh, that’s right, you two have to go back to the office. I don’T. I don’t have a job right now. Thought I was gonna miss it, but I really don’T. And, you know, let’s just be honest, I’m an abbott. I got plenty of money in the bank.

Lily: Okay, billy, stop. This isn’t funny.

Ashland: You should listen to your better half.

Billy: I do listen to her all the time. And she listens to me, because she accepts me for who I am. You know the feeling, don’t you? I mean, clearly victoria has forgiven you for plenty of things. And all fairness to you, you forgave me for many things, as well. I actually think we have something in common. She likes a little bit of that risk-taking kind of stuff, you know? Ashland, do you play poker? Only for fun, of course. Come on, let’s have a game, me and you, mano a mano. You name the stakes.

Chelsea: I am not trying to pry when it comes to you and sharon. I have completed therapy, and all of those dark, poisonous thoughts are behind me. But I can’t help being a little curious.

Adam: Okay. Well, let me put your mind at ease, I, um, barely see sharon anymore. I don’t have any reason to go to her side of the property, and vice versa. I mean, she and rey are building their life together. And I’m focused on connor and newman media.

Chelsea: You sound good. Focused.

Adam: I am.

[ Sighs ] Truth be told, I’d love to live somewhere other than the tack house. See enough of my father at work, and I’d like to be closer to the office, but connor, he loves the open spaces here. He likes being by the horses and close to family.

Chelsea: Yeah.

Adam: Faith has been great. She’s been giving him riding lessons, so grandpa victor and grandma nikki can do no wrong in his eyes.

Chelsea: Good. Oh, that all sounds wonderful. But are you sure connor’s doing okay? I mean, he seemed fine on our video chats, but it’s such a small window into his life.

Adam: No, I’ve been watching him like a hawk to see if there’s any emotional trouble, but I genuinely think he’s doing well.

Chelsea: Good. Good. I’m relieved to hear that, ’cause it’s been hard, adam, being away from him for so long. There’s so many changes in connor’s life. I mean, he came back to genoa city, he moved into a new house.

Adam: I know, I know. He’s been dealing with it like a champ. I promise. Honestly, his biggest concern is he misses his mother. So your surprise return, it’s gonna make his day.

Chelsea: Thank you for saying that. Earlier, you said you were glad to see me. Does that mean you missed me, too? Maybe it’s another refill at your favorite diner…

Amanda: Listen, I would never impugn your motives. Okay? I know that you are coming from a good place. You are concerned whether or not dom is okay. But do you think that chance’s mental state may cause him to neglect the baby in some way?

Devon: No, I don’t think that. I… chance is a responsible guy. He’s always been that, his whole life. And that’s the most important part of being a father. So…

Amanda: Yet you’re still worried.

Devon: Yeah, I can’t help it. You know? The only thing that I know is that I want dominic to have the best life possible, and I also want to be there to help chance out, especially ’cause he opened up to me. And I think I know a way to achieve both those things, and it’s just that I need to spend as much time with dominic as i can.

Sharon: You know, the way we’re rhapsodizing about your relationship with chance, it has me wondering if I should be jealous.

Rey: Oh, stop it. You’re much cuter than he is.

Sharon: Oh, good. I’m glad there’s at least one thing you prefer about me.

Rey: And you are the kindest, most compassionate person I’ve ever met. You are warm and beautiful and the love of my life.

Sharon: Aww, that’s more like it.

Rey: Mm.

Sharon: Chance is lucky to have a partner who’s so generous with compliments.

Rey: You know, I was actually considering heading down to the station to offer my moral support while he met with paul, but you’ve already made so much fun of me.

Sharon: No, I would never make fun of that. I think that’s a really sweet thing to do.

Rey: Yeah?

Sharon: Yeah. Go cheer on your partner. You know what? Tell him I said good luck.

Rey: Will do.

Lily: Billy, nobody is playing poker, and please stop joking about gambling.

Billy: Honey, it’s a harmless game of cards, okay? Ashland, you kind of owe me one.

Ashland: I don’t owe you anything, and I’m going to decline.

Billy: I can round up some of the old boys. I’m sure they’re still kicking around. I mean, I haven’t been clean all that long.

Ashland: I’m not about to feed your addiction.

Billy: Oh, really? That’s where your moral boundaries stop, ashland? You got no problem setting a trap and stripping me of my dignity, but now you’re a straight-shooter? Now you’re mr. Trustworthy?

Ashland: You’d been warned. I told you that digging around in my past would be a losing proposition for you. You brought this on yourself, billy.

Billy: Yeah, I’m in the wrong. That’s rich coming from you.

Victoria: Enough, billy. Why don’t you go to a gamblers anonymous meeting or something?

Billy: Oh, wow, there you go. That’s why you get paid the big bucks. Yeah, I’m not gonna do that, victoria.

Victoria: Don’t do this because you’re gonna regret it.

Billy: Oh, believe me, i regret many things in my life. This is not one of them.

Victoria: I can’t watch this anymore. We should go.

Billy: I think that went well.

Lily: Yeah, maybe too well.

Adam: Did I miss you? I’m not sure how to answer that.

Chelsea: I didn’t mean to put you on the spot. That was not my intention. My therapist encouraged me to be more direct, but maybe coming out and saying it like that was too direct.

Adam: I just — I thought we talked about this.

Chelsea: We did, adam, but not in person, so I thought that we could do that now.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Did I not make it clear how i felt? I thought I did.

Chelsea: I remember what you said. That we need to forge our own paths moving forward separately, but I don’t know, I heard something different in your voice today. You seem more at peace, like maybe you’re willing to get past what I did.

Adam: I do feel more at peace for a number of reasons. But as far as forgetting and forgiving that you tried to frame me for attempted murder, I really don’t think we should have that discussion when connor’s gonna be walking through the door.

Chelsea: You’re right. Another time.

Connor: Mom!

Chelsea: Connor! [ Laughs ] Hi! Oh, my boy! Hi!

Connor: Grandpa said there was a surprise. I was secretly hoping it was you. I’ve missed you so much.

Chelsea: Not nearly as much as I’ve missed you. Oh, my baby! Oh!

[ Chuckles ]

[ Laughs ] (Kids chatter)

Abby: Can you believe it? No more security following us around, no more looking over our shoulders. It feels like this is the start of a new chapter.

Chance: Yeah, it sure does, huh? Hey, um, I’d love to stay and talk about it, but I got to get to this meeting with paul.

Abby: Yeah, yeah, sure. Good luck.

Chance: Thank you.

Abby: Love you.

Chance: I love you.

[ Doorbell rings ] Hey, man.

Devon: Hey.

Chance: Come on in.

Devon: Thank you. Thanks. Hey.

Abby: Hey.

Devon: Figured I’d come by and check on dominic.

Abby: Yeah.

Chance: Yeah, of course, of course. Hey, I meant to call you this morning, man. I just wanted to say thanks for listening last night.

Devon: Oh, yeah.

Chance: Sorry if I seemed a little off-balance.

Devon: Please, don’t apologize for nothing, man. It’s completely understandable.

Abby: You know what? We got some great news. The people who bombed chance’s safe house and their bosses, they have been arrested.

Devon: Really?

Abby: Yeah.

Devon: That’s fantastic news.

Chance: Yeah, you know, little disappointed I couldn’t finish the job myself, but, you know…

Abby: Oh, come on, you gave your people the information that helped arrest the perpetrators.

Chance: Yeah, you’re right, you’re right. That’s a good thing.

[ Chuckles ]

Devon: That’s a great thing. Really, it’s — we should celebrate it. You guys want to go and grab a bite or something or…?

Chance: No, I wish I could. I got to get to this meeting, so rain check.

Devon: Alright.

Chelsea: You have grown so much, but you look happy and healthy.

Victor: Well, now, connor, you tell her that is what life on the ranch does to you, right? I mean, fresh air, all this room to play games in, right? And grandparents who dote on you.

Connor: Now mom being here makes it perfect.

Adam: Mm-hmm. Good day for all of us.

Connor: Want to go down to the stables? I can show you my favorite horses.

Victor: You bet. This is your home. You do anything you want to, okay? You show mom around. Okay.

Adam: You had to know she was coming back at some point.

Victor: Mm. Was her sudden return supposed to shock us or what?

Adam: No, she’s actually been trying to get ahold of me for the last few days. I was always in the middle of something when she called.

Victor: I need to know what her return means to you.

Victoria: I’m so sorry that you had to deal with billy’s latest scene.

Ashland: Well, I don’t hold you responsible. I almost feel bad for him. As much as I hated the way billy used my history for blackmail fodder, it’s sad to see him falling back into his old habits.

Victoria: Well, it makes me even more certain that sending the kids to boarding school was the right thing to do.

Ashland: Well, now that we know what’s going on, you don’t have to keep worrying that billy’s up to something.

Billy: What are you worried about? I think that went great. I think victoria and ashland bought every minute of it.

Lily: Yeah, it’s just your drunken tirade felt a little too real to me.

Billy: Honey, I was just faking it.

Lily: I know, but the venom in your voice when you were accusing ashland, it was pretty chilling.

Billy: Well, ashland deserves everything he gets, and it was all part of the act. We know what we’re doing here.

Lily: I know, I’m just worried that you’re gonna get too caught up in this. Like, what if you go so deep into this facade that you lose sight of the goal?

Billy: I’m in control, okay? I’ve never been more focused in my life.

Lily: [ Sighs ] Okay, well, if that’s true, then there’s something I want you to do, and you’re not gonna like it. Super emma just about sleeps in her cape.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Adam: Listen, there is no future for me and chelsea as a couple. We’ll always be co-parents to connor, but we have done too much damage to each other to get back what we had before.

Victor: Right. I’m relieved to hear you say that, for your sake, okay?

Adam: Yeah, my primary concern is connor. And I know it’s gonna be hard for him to deal with his parents’ separation.

Victor: Well, he’s a strong boy. He’ll persevere.

Adam: Well, hopefully having chelsea back will help. He needs all the love he can get, especially from his mom.

Victor: Now, you know, she’s a fiercely protective mother, and I respect that. But, son, she’s toxic for you. As your relationship was toxic, as well.

Adam: As much as I appreciate the advice, I’m not crazy about getting love-life critiques from my father.

Victor: I am telling you for your sake. I’m supportive of you. Your work at newman media has been fantastic — very good. I’m very impressed. The thing that screws your life up is your romantic entanglements.

Abby: There you go. So, christine had some big news, but I have even bigger news in the life of dominic newman abbott chancellor.

Devon: Why? What’d he do?

Abby: He sat up today.

Devon: He did?

Abby: Mm-hmm.

Devon: Get out of here. Oh, my gosh. He’s advanced for his age, isn’t he?

Abby: Yeah, a little. It was very exciting.

Devon: Oh. I have to admit, actually, i probably could’ve seen this coming, ’cause while you were gone, he started working on doing that.

Abby: Really?

Devon: Yeah.

Abby: Oh, well, [Chuckles] Maybe we have a little gymnast on our hands.

Devon: Oh, man. Did you get it on video?

Abby: I did. I will text it to you.

Devon: Thank you.

Abby: So, you ran into chance last night? He was in such a rush to get to the station that I didn’t get any details, but how’d he seem to you?

Sharon: Thank you. Hey.

Rey: Hey.

Sharon: How’d it go with chance?

Rey: You can ask him yourself.

Sharon: So the conquering hero returns.

Chance: Oh, please.

Sharon: Well, rey told me a little bit about your mission.

Rey: Well, I can tell you more now. Chance just found out that all the criminals have been caught.

Sharon: That’s amazing.

Chance: Yeah, you know, just doing my job. A job I didn’t technically finish, so calling me a hero is a bit of a stretch.

Sharon: What you did is heroic in my book.

Rey: Mine, too. And, chance, you can be modest all you want, but I full intend to brag about my partner.

Billy: Please don’t tell me you’re gonna ask me to drop the plan again.

Lily: No, I’m not gonna do that. I’m on board. My mind hasn’t changed. I just — I want you to add a step.

Billy: Which is what?

Lily: I think you need to tell jack what’s going on. Let him know this whole thing is a charade. It’s not fair. I mean, I already feel bad that we’re lying to victoria. The look on her face? She was mortified.

Billy: Victoria sat back while ashland, victor, and adam tore me down. Okay? Why should I feel remorse about rubbing in the consequences of what they did to me in her face?

Lily: Because jack has nothing to do with that, okay? It’s not fair to let him think that you’re drinking and gambling again.

Billy: I see your logic and i understand your compassion, but my righteous brother is not gonna go along with this plan. In fact, he could blow the whole thing up. We were alone when my husband had the heart attack.

Devon: I don’t think it’s a secret that chance is still… trying to adjust to being home. You know?

Abby: Yeah, I mean, he’s admitted as much to me. I guess I’m just optimistic that he’s gonna get past this.

Devon: Can’t be easy for him to process everything that’s happened.

Abby: I hate that he keeps beating himself up over going away. And, yes, I understand that he feels bad that he wasn’t here for me and for mariah, but no one holds that against him. Everyone who loves chance understands the circumstances, and we know that he is dedicated to the greater good. I mean, it’s one of the things that I love about him.

Devon: I know. I know that, and maybe spending time home with you and with the baby that can sit up on his own now will make things a little easier on him.

Abby: Yeah. I just — I keep telling myself to be patient, that chance is gonna get back to his old self. It’s just gonna take longer than I thought.

Sharon: Chance, you may not think of yourself as a hero, but I think you deserve a free drink, and I own this place so I get to make the call.

Chance: Can’t argue with that, huh?

Rey: No.

Sharon: What can I get you?

Chance: Oh, I don’t know. I, um… you know what? Let me get right back to you. Excuse me just for a moment. Hey, christine.

Christine: Hi.

Chance: It’s good to see you again. I have to apologize to you. I was a little overwhelmed by the news earlier, and I forgot to thank you for everything that you did while I was gone.

Christine: I just tried to keep nina and abby up to date.

Chance: Well, you did much more than that. I mean, they told me what a great source of support and information that you were to them. So I thank you. I’m so grateful.

Christine: Yeah. I was happy to help, well, until my information became inaccurate. Breaking the news of your death to your mother and your wife was definitely one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do.

Chance: Yeah, I, uh…can’t even imagine.

Christine: I hate that they had to go through that, and it’s not like I’m blaming you. I know you had to do that for the safety of your family and the sake of the mission, it just…

[ Sighs ] It wasn’t easy at all.

Chance: Well, thank you again. I got to get going. Dom’s gonna be up any minute, but it was great to see you.

Christine: Okay.

Victor: Do you feel like going down to the stables?

Adam: No, I don’t want to be constantly hovering over chelsea’s shoulders. She deserves to have some alone time with her son.

Victor: Alright.

[ Cellphone chimes ] What’s that?

Adam: [ Chuckles ] It’s another video of billy from our anonymous sender, and it looks like it is not at a bar for once. It’s at the coffee house with victoria.

Adam: Billy is certainly fulfilling expectations.

Victor: Well, now, his downfall was predictable. But who the hell sent this to you? Can whoever it is be trusted? You have no idea who sent this to you.

Adam: Those are all great questions, and I don’t know the answers. But I will find out.

Victor: We had better find out.

Billy: I have good reason for keeping jack out of the loop. I know him. He’s gonna want to save me or, you know, help fix me, and that’s gonna add legitimacy to my downward spiral.

Lily: Yeah, but it’s also gonna inflict emotional pain on him. Jack is an addict, so if he sees you spiraling out of control and feels like he can’t help you, that’s gonna be really painful for him.

Billy: Yeah.

Lily: Do you really think it’s worth it to put him through that?

Billy: No, okay? It’s not ideal. But in the end, it’s gonna be fine because I’m not actually spiraling.

Lily: No, I know, but you’re lying to your brother, and he might not be able to forgive that. Look, just — it’s something to think about, okay?

Billy: Okay. I appreciate it, ’cause the fact is we’re in this together. So jack is out of town, and we will make up our minds by the time he gets home.

Lily: Okay, sounds good.

Billy: I have to ask you, is there another reason why you want to bring jack into our little circle of trust?

Lily: What would that be?

Billy: Someone else to hold me accountable just in case I do start falling apart.

Lily: No, I mean, it’s great, you know, to always have more people on your side, but, no, if you’re saying that you have things under control, then I — I trust you.

Billy: Thank you. Hold on a second. There’s a woman that’s about to sit down right now, I feel like she’s been following me for the last couple of days and I don’t think it’s a coincidence.

Lily: I think that actually might be sally.

Billy: What?

Lily: I mean, the disguise is decent, but I overheard her and adam talking about spying on you. That has to be her.

Billy: Wow. She has no idea that she’s playing right into our hand, does she?

Lily: What do you think we should do?

Billy: Let’s give her a show. How did olay top expensive creams?

Sharon: I’m just so happy that chance and abby have a happy ending to their story. It must be such a relief for them to be home and safe and able to move on with their lives.

Christine: Oh, I’m sure it is, yeah.

Sharon: Well, excuse me.

Christine: [ Sighs ] So, um…paul admitted he thought it might be a little too soon for chance to go back to work. What do you think?

Rey: Well, I don’t know enough to answer that question. I mean, this is only the second time I’ve seen chance since he’s been back home. Don’t get me wrong, I’m rooting for him to rejoin the force at some point, but…I don’t know if he’s ready.

Christine: He shouldn’t rush things.

Rey: I think the mission took a lot out of him — maybe more than any of us realize.

Devon: Mommy told me that you sat up for the first time, buddy. Good job! Such a good job, man. Aww. I know you’re happy that mom’s back. I hope you’re not tired of seeing my face, though, ’cause i tell you what, I’m gonna be visiting you all the time. Okay? That’s right.

Connor: That was really fun, mom.

Chelsea: Have I mentioned how much I missed you?

Connor: You have a bunch.

Chelsea: Well, get used to it ’cause you’re gonna hear it 100 more times.

Connor: Can you spend the night here with us tonight?

Chelsea: You know what? Now that I’m back, I am going to be staying at the penthouse, but we can plan lots of visits.

Adam: Uh-huh, and even though your parents aren’t together anymore, that does not change how much we love you, connor.

Chelsea: Nobody is more important to us than you are.

Victor: You just know that the whole family is here for you, okay? And soon we’ll go out riding.

Adam: You know what? Maybe you could stay with your mom in town tonight. You have a lot more catching up to do, right?

Connor: Yeah. Is that alright?

Chelsea: Nothing would make me happier.

Ashland: I refuse to worry about billy abbott. He’s lily’s problem, at least for now. I don’t know how long she’ll put up with his self-destructive streak.

Victoria: Yes, but I’m worried about her leaving him. You know, there’s only so much someone can take when billy careens off course.

Ashland: Which you know from experience.

Victoria: If she does leave him, billy’s gonna get a lot worse. Being alone without someone to rein him in, that’s an even more dangerous place for him to be.

Lily: I’m sorry, you’re carrying cards around as a prop?

Billy: Always be prepared — that’s my motto.

Lily: [ Scoffs ] You stole that from the boy scouts.

Billy: You gonna help me out?

Lily: Billy, please put those away.

Billy: What’s the big deal?

Lily: No, I’m serious. I’m not amused.

Billy: Lily, I can see you’re not amused. It’s not a problem.

Lily: Okay, gambling is not a joke, okay? Not something you just do casually.

Billy: We’re not gambling. There’s no literally no money on the table. I’m simply just feeling the cards.

Lily: Okay, you know what? That’s it.

Billy: Lily.

Lily: I’m done.

Billy: Hey, relax.

Lily: No.

Billy: Lily, come here!

Billy: Good morning.

Lily: Hi. Good morning.

Billy: I’m pretty sure this is the same situation that i left you in last night.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Yes, you are correct.

Billy: Hmm.

Lily: I managed to get a few hours of sleep on the couch, and then I got right back to it. But I don’t mind, honestly. I’m learning so much about the company, and I have so many ideas in my head on how to modernize it and boost profitability.

Billy: That’s good. I like this enthusiasm. I’m glad you got rid of the self-doubt you had earlier.

Lily: Oh, yeah. I put that out of my mind because I am prepared to rise to the challenge.

Billy: And that’s exactly why my mom hired you.

Lily: Mm. Yeah, I know. She’s a savvy leader, but she’s also very traditional and conservative.

Billy: Uh, yeah, that’s true. No one’s gonna accuse her of having the risk-taking sensibility that I have. But you know what? This is not about me. This is about you, and I don’t want to get in front of your moment right now. You are shining, and I love to see this excitement. Oh, come on now. You can say it.

Lily: No…

Billy: Lily…

Lily: …It’s fine. No, it’s fine. It’s nothing.

Billy: No, yeah. It is something. Come oN.

Lily: No, I just… I… look. I understand why you made your decision, and I respect that. But…I really wish that you would reconsider coming to work at chancellor with me. I mean, look. Just hear me out, okay? The more I think about it, the more I learn, the more opportunities I see, and I see how much we could accomplish being ceo and coo together. And look. I know that you wouldn’t have the voice that you want right away, but, you know, in time you can…

[ Sighs ] Okay, it’s fine. I see that you’ve made up your mind. So, it’s okay. Or…have you?

[ Text message pings ]

Watch this. Billy abbott, yesterday.

Victor: Hey, son.

Adam: Morning.

Victor: So, I understand you arranged for noah to do some freelance work for us. Thank you for doing that.

Adam: Uh, yeah. I was happy to do it.

Victor: I know that you’re a little disappointed that i didn’t pursue the purchase of chanccomm, but, you know, there are a lot of good things in store for newman media. You know that.

Adam: Mm-hmm. Yeah, I’ll make sure of that.

Victor: Okay. What are you looking at?

Adam: I just received some unsolicited candid footage.

Victor: Of what?

Adam: Of billy. I ran into him yesterday. He was drinking alone.

Victor: Huh. Yeah, well…I saw him the other afternoon…drinking alone.

Adam: Yeah, I knew this was a rough time for him, but I didn’t think he was gonna be coming apart at the seams this quickly.

Victor: He had two solid parents, and he has always been a loser.

Adam: To put it mildly.

Victor: Amazing. Even when he, you know, found some success riding on the coattails of someone else, he could never hang onto it. So, it’s not a surprise to me, nor to victoria, apparently, considering what she’s about to do.

Ashland: I need you to take care of this immediately and use only this number to contact me. Do not go through anyone at the newman/locke offices, okay? It’s imperative that this be handled with the utmost discretion. Thank you. I’ll be in touch.

Victoria: Hi.

Ashland: Been standing there long?

Victoria: Long enough to overhear you. So, what needs to be handled with the utmost discretion? I’m your wife, your partner. Whatever it is, surely you can tell me.

Ashland: I’m afraid I can’T.

Chelsea: So, tell me. What did I miss? Ordinary tissues burn when theo blows.

Chelsea: Yay!

Chloe: I’m so happy to see you!

Chelsea: Now you know why i texted you earlier, asking what you were up to.

Chloe: Oh, you are so smooth. So, is this just a visit, or are you back for real?

Chelsea: I am happy to report I’m home for good. Well, for now.

Chloe: That’s fantastic. I am so happy to have you back. I have missed you so much.

Chelsea: I’ve missed you, too, so much. I mean, it’s been way too long.

Chloe: You look amazing.

Chelsea: Well, thanks. I’m feeling like a million bucks these days.

Chloe: Well, I am so happy to hear that. Sit!

Chelsea: Yes!

Chloe: So, tell me everything, starting with why you didn’t tell me you were planning to come home last time we talked.

Chelsea: I hadn’t made up my mind yet, and then, once I did make up mind, I thought it would be more fun to surprise you.

Chloe: So, is this surprise just for your bestie, or is there anyone else who knows that you’re back in town?

Chelsea: If you’re referring to adam…

Chloe: Who else?

Chelsea: …I didn’t want to spring myself on him. I mentioned to him I might be coming home several times, actually, and he would cut me off, saying it wasn’t a good time.

Chloe: He should be making time for the mother of his child.

Chelsea: Yeah!

Chloe: But I think he does have a lot on his mind lately.

Chelsea: Such as?

Chloe: Billy. There’s another big war between the two of them.

Chelsea: [ Exhaling ] Wow! I guess some things never change.

Billy: I got to admit, though. Seeing you all fired up like this, there’s a part of me that makes me want to get in the trenches and paint this picture with you.

Lily: Oh, a part of you? I guess I have to work harder at trying to change your mind.

Billy: Yes, darling. Not even you can convince me to come and work at chancellor. However, I will be your biggest supporter. I will be here for you no matter what to bounce ideas off of, and, of course, to be your personal consultant day or night.

Lily: Oh, careful. I’m gonna hold you to that.

Billy: You better, because I’m serious. I’m all yours.

Lily: I know! And I’m yours, which is why I’m so disappointed that we’re not gonna team up in the office anymore.

Billy: I’m proud of you and this path that you’re on. And I appreciate you wanting to still work with me. However, this plan that I’ve put into motion, with victor and adam, it’s the only thing I’m focusing on right now.

Ashland: You have nothing to fear, I swear.

Victoria: Do I seem worried to you?

Ashland: Not at all, but i can only imagine where your mind went to when you overheard that phone call… back to the other secrets I kept from you, perhaps the time i claimed to be making payments for a wedding gift, and I was actually planning to pay off jesse gaines — not a moment i am proud of.

Victoria: Well, okay. Maybe there was a tiny bit of déj vu, but I know that a lot of things have changed since then. So, if you’re good, then I’m good. I trust you.

Ashland: I am so grateful for that. But I’m still sensing something from you. Could it be curiosity?

Victoria: [ Laughs ] Maybe just a little.

Ashland: Well, you’re just gonna have to be in suspense a little while longer.

Victoria: Well, then, you know what? You need to take advantage of this energy, don’t you?

Ashland: I plan to. I’m going to dive into some work that I have to catch up on, and then I’m hoping to squeeze in some extra quality time with my gorgeous wife.

Victoria: Well, I like the sound of that.

Ashland: What is on your agenda?

Victoria: Quality time with my amazing husband just moved pretty high up on the list. But I do have a meeting that i have to get to, and at some point I’m gonna have to talk to billy about boarding school for the kids.

Ashland: Oh. Well, that won’t be an easy conversation.

Victoria: We usually agree when it comes to the children, but he’ll feel blindsided by this. And he definitely won’t like that he’s the reason I think they should go away to school.

Victor: So, nikki tells me that victoria is ready to send her two kids to boarding school.

Adam: Tough decision.

Victor: That’s a very tough decision. And I’m not so sure I like it. But I think under the circumstances, it’s the best solution for both katie and johnny.

Adam: Well, at least they won’t have to be subjected to what’s going on with their father.

Victor: Got that right.

Adam: Because what’s happening now is just the beginning.

Victor: Oh, boy. Yeah, but I’ve seen it all before with him. Now he’s drinking. Then the gambling starts. You know? Then it starts going downhill. And then he’ll display an array of erratic behavior, embarrassing himself, embarrassing his family. And then he’ll start blaming everyone else for his mistakes.

Adam: Well, it sounds like billy needs to be put in his place.

Victor: Yeah. I’m afraid you’re right. Most bladder leak pads were similar.

Chloe: Feast your eyes on the new menu and order whatever you think looks good.

Chelsea: So…what else has changed around here? Tell me everything. What’s the latest at newman fashion? It’s been like weeks since i got a real update.

Chloe: Why do you want to know?

Chelsea: Because I want to be kept up to speed?

Chloe: Or because you’re ready to come back to work with me, and you’re excited to dive back into the designing world?

Chelsea: Give a girl a minute to breathe before she makes any major decisions.

Chloe: I have given you months, and I’m just really excited to work with my bestie again.

Chelsea: Well, I would have to meet this sally spectra in person.

Chloe: Well, is working with her going to be a deal breaker, because I am telling you she is really good, and with our combined talents, we are going to be unstoppable.

Chelsea: Hmm. The truth is, connor is my priority right now. And I’m just excited to see him when he gets home from school today. I can’t wait to see the look on his face.

Chloe: And you could just, you know, swing by the office in the meantime and talk with adam about signing on board officially.

Chelsea: I’ll get to adam soon enough. My son comes first.

Victor: So, what are you thinking?

Adam: [ Sighs ] Um…billy’s setting himself up for humiliation. So, if somebody wanted to take advantage of that, they’re making it very easy.

Victor: So, who sent this to you?

Adam: I have no idea. It was anonymous. It’s probably a freelancer that was looking for a payout.

Victor: Did they say what they wanted?

Adam: Nothing.

Victor: You don’t find that odd?

Adam: Well, maybe it’s somebody from billy’s past that wants to take him down a peg or two.

Victor: Have you shown this to anyone?

Adam: I just got it. You’re the only one that’s seen it.

Victor: Be careful, okay? The last thing we need is another greedy, blackmailing bastard like jesse gaines, alright?

Adam: I agree.

Victor: Okay. You keep me informed.

Adam: Will do.

Victor: I have a meeting down the floor, okay?

Adam: Mm-hmm. Interesting info. Who are you, and what do you want?

[ Text message pings ]

I don’t want anything. I just want to help.

Adam: [ Laughs ]

Victoria: Hey, there.

Victoria: I’m worried about you falling back into a very dark place.

Billy: But that’s what I do, vic.

Victoria: You know, I really hope that this is your anger talking, but it brings me to the larger reason that I needed to speak with you. It’s about the kids.

Billy: What about the kids? Is everything alright?

Victoria: Yes, everything’s fine. I just think that it would be best for them to go away for a little while after the holidays, to boarding school.

Billy: You think? Or you’ve already decided? Better skin from your body wash?

Chelsea: Hi, nikki.

Nikki: My goodness, chelsea! What a surprise. I-I didn’t know you were coming back to town.

Chelsea: Well, anita’s doing a lot better now. So, she doesn’t need my help anymore.

Nikki: Oh, that’s good to hear.

Chelsea: Yeah. And I — I just miss connor so much. So, the second she gave me her blessing to go, I started packing my bags. Now I’m just counting the minutes till he comes home from school so I can hug him and kiss him and just see what he’s been up to.

Nikki: Well, I know he’s just gonna be thrilled to you see you. But while we’re alone, I’d like to hear more about you. How are you feeling?

Chelsea: I’m great.

Nikki: I guess what I meant to say is, how are you feeling emotionally?

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] I understand why you’d be concerned. But I’ve completed my therapy, and my attorney went to court on my behalf, and all the restrictions have been lifted.

Nikki: Well, that’s reassuring.

Chelsea: I’m feeling very, um, centered, grounded, and although I hated being away from connor for so long, being away from some of the other people in genoa city has been very helpful for my counseling. I’ve been able to focus, you know, on healing.

Nikki: And your doctor is on board with your coming back?

Chelsea: One-hundred percent. I wouldn’t be allowed to be here if he hadn’t approved. He believes I’m ready, and so do I.

Nikki: Well, I’m just so curious. What are your plans and expectations now that you’re home for good?

[ Knock on door ]

Ashland: Come in.

Nate: [ Clears throat ]

Ashland: Oh, if it isn’t my best man. Get in here! It’s so good to see you.

Nate: I just wanted to check in, see how you’re responding to your new treatment.

Ashland: I should have checked in with you earlier. I’ve been so busy around here.

Nate: No, no, no. I understand. I understand.

Ashland: I got the latest test results back.

Nate: And what did they reveal?

Ashland: There’s been no further spread of the cancer.

Nate: Ashland, somebody’s got to teach you how to deliver good news.

Ashland: I’m sorry. When it comes to my health, I’m just a little out of practice.

Nate: This is fantastic!

Ashland: I was almost too afraid to believe it. I’ve been walking that fine line between hopeful and cautious ever since I got back from peru.

Nate: That is great news.

Ashland: Thank you.

Nate: Listen. Elena and I don’t have to be at the hospital till later. If you’re free and have an appetite, we should grab a bite to eat.

Ashland: I would love it.

Nate: How about a double date? That is, if victoria can join us, too.

Ashland: Well, I hope so, but she might not be able to get away.

Victoria: I’ve contacted the school, had interviews, met with the admissions director, and both of the children have been accepted.

Billy: And you did all that on your own, huh?

Victoria: Well, I was kind of hoping that you and I could move forward on this together. Look — I know it’s not easy to hear. I know that. But I really do believe that it’s for the best. There’s been so much family drama, and you’re —

Billy: Yeah, I’m — I’m what, vic?

Victoria: You’re just — you’re obviously going through a lot. I’m simply trying to look out for the kids here. It’s not gonna be forever — maybe till the end of the quarter or perhaps the end of the year. I don’t know. It depends on what’s happening here.

Billy: Hmm. Yeah, okay.

Victoria: And it’s an incredible school, among one of the best in the whole country, with a strenuous academic schedule and spectacular extracurricular activities, small classes. I think the kids are really gonna love it, billy.

[ Sighs ] Look. Please. I-I just want you to consider this before you shoot it down.

Billy: I don’t need any time.

Victoria: Billy —

Billy: No, I think we should do it.

Victoria: What?

Billy: [ Sighs ] I think it’s a good idea.

Victoria: You do?

Billy: Yeah, I’m agreeing with you, vic. You’re still gonna doubt me?

Victoria: I just didn’t expect for you to agree so quickly.

Billy: Well, you know, I’m gonna miss those little munchkins, but it’s probably a good thing that they’re somewhere else for a little while. So, I’ll call the school, and I’ll touch base and make sure everything’s in place.

Victoria: I’m really grateful for the way you’re handling this.

Billy: Yeah, well, don’t read too much into it.

Victoria: Well, what does that mean?

Billy: It means that, you know, this is about the kids, right? It doesn’t mean it’s copacetic between us. I mean, even if you do go buying chanccomm so I don’t have to watch adam bleed it dry, it doesn’t negate everything that’s come before this.

Victoria: Like what?

Billy: Well, like I was dead right about your husband’s past. And, you know, try not to deny it too much, because I know that you were involved with that whole plan to set the trap for me. And that’s what hurts the most, honestly, because that’s what they do. I know that’s what they’re capable of. But what’s disturbing for me is I didn’t think you were capable of that. I thought you were better.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Lily: Hey!

Chloe: Lily, long time no see.

Lily: I know. How are you? How are the kids?

Chloe: Oh, they’re so great. They’re growing like crazy. How about yours?

Lily: They’re good. They’re really good. Enjoy them while they’re young. It goes by very fast.

Chloe: [ Laughs ] I know. I’m really enjoying how easy it is to excite them right now. I just got them some brownies, and I know it’s just gonna make their day.

Lily: Aw, it’s so great being your kid’s hero.

[ Laughs ] Oh, by the way, congratulations on the buzz that sally created for your fashion platform.

Chloe: Oh, yeah. Well, yes, she made victoria’s dress, but let’s hear it for me for hiring her in the first place.

Lily: [ Laughs ] Well, to be a good leader, you have to have an eye for talent. That’s true.

Chloe: Speaking of leadership, congratulations, ms. Future ceo of chancellor industries.

Lily: Yeah, thank you. We’re working out the details, but it’s not that big of a deal, to be honest.

Chloe: [ Laughing ] Wow. Okay, yeah, I mean, I get it.

Lily: [ Laughs ] You get what?

Chloe: Well, like, the low-key thing. You just took this massive step-up in the corporate world, and most people would be screaming it from the rooftops. But, I mean, I get it. For you, it’s a little complicated.

Lily: Uh…why do you say that?

Chloe: Because of billy. I mean, I’m sure he is totally thrilled for you, but knowing billy like I do, I’ll bet that he’s freaking out and swearing vengeance on his enemies.

Elena: Nate, I am so glad you thought of this. And I’m even more glad that we actually all found the time to get together.

Ashland: You know, I’ve learned to make time for moments like this. It took me a while to realize that reading yet another financial report can wait when you have the opportunity to spend time with friends.

Victoria: Hi. I’m so sorry that I’m late.

Ashland: Oh, we’re so glad you could make it, angel.

Victoria: Well, so am I. How are you two doing?

Elena: Good. Hi.

Ashland: I took the liberty of ordering for you.

Victoria: Oh, thank you. So, did I miss anything juicy?

Nate: Oh, we were just talking about how the four of us haven’t had a chance to get together since your wedding.

Victoria: It seems like yesterday.

Elena: It was so beautiful.

Ashland: Almost as beautiful as my bride.

Elena: Aw! You two are both such newlyweds still!

Ashland: That’s exactly how i feel, like a newlywed each and every day.

Victoria: So do I.

Ashland: You know, when i received my diagnosis, I wasn’t sure how much time I had left. Nothing was promised. Nothing was guaranteed. But I made it to my wedding. And I am grateful to have made it through thanksgiving, and now here we are, closing in on christmas with the love of my life.

Chelsea: I thought I made myself perfectly clear. My goal right now is reconnecting with my son, being the best mom I can possibly be, spending the most time with him as possible.

Nikki: And you’ve talked to adam about this?

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] As much as I acknowledge your expertise on the care and handling of all the newman men, what I discuss with adam is my personal, private business. And we’ve got a great deal to discuss.

Adam: The guard at the front

Nikki: Victor, I wasn’t expecting you home for hours.

Adam: The guard at the front gate alerted him that chelsea was on the premises.

Chelsea: No need to sound the alarm. I come in peace.

Adam: No one assumed otherwise.

Chelsea: It’s okay. I understand. I’m actually glad you’re here. We can talk before connor gets out of school.

Victor: This return of yours was quite unexpected.

Chelsea: Yeah. I’m just glad things worked out so I could be home before christmas. I’m excited to spend the holidays with connor.

Nikki: You know, why don’t we give adam and chelsea some privacy so they can catch up, and I’ll fill you in.

Victor: Why don’t we?

Adam: [ Sighs ] Well, connor’s gonna flip when he sees you.

Chelsea: Yeah. Well, that makes two of us.

Adam: He’s missed you.

Chelsea: I’ve missed him. Video chat is not the same as being in person. I just can’t wait to see him and catch up with him, and I have a million questions to ask him and things to tell him. I…

Adam: I just — I wish you’d told me you were coming.

Chelsea: Adam, I tried on more than one occasion, and you were always too busy to talk about it.

Adam: It’s just there’s a lot going on.

Chelsea: You’re busy. I get it.

Adam: I’m sorry that I didn’t make time for you.

Chelsea: Um, so, chloe tells me that there is a war brewing between you and billy?

Adam: That’s chloe for you, always over-exaggerating. It’s just business — nothing more. And it’s unimportant because all that matters right now is what’s going on with you.

Lily: Sorry. So, why are you so interested in billy’s state of mind?

Chloe: I promise I don’t have a hidden agenda. This all comes from a place of concern.

Lily: Okay. So, what are you trying to say?

Chloe: I don’t know all the details, but I do know about the retraction of the story chanccomm published about ashland, who is basically a newman now. And chanccomm is for sale. So, whatever’s going on reeks of world war whatever we’re on, and I’m just a bit nervous about the implications for billy.

Lily: Yeah, but, I mean, that has nothing to do with you.

Chloe: Well, actually, it does… because I always thought that i would be the one who would never be able to get over what happened with adam and my hatred for him. I mean, I wanted him dead, and i was willing to do it.

Lily: Right, but you found a way to coexist with him and even work for him.

Chloe: And victor, too, not that I will ever fully trust either one of them. Look. I will never forget what adam did, but I did find a way to move forward. But billy… I mean, I don’t think that he has ever really found a way to let go of the past, and I just find myself wondering if he’s ever able to really do that. But I don’t know. Maybe — maybe things are different this time.

Lily: And why do you think that?

Chloe: Because of you.

Elena: So, how do you both plan on spending your first christmas together?

Victoria: Well, we’ve decided that we’re gonna stay here in town so that ashland can experience his first newman christmas with the tree and my mom playing carols at the piano.

Nate: Sounds nice.

Ashland: I can’t wait. I fully intend to make this holiday extra special.

Victoria: Oh, is that a hint?

Ashland: No. Well, maybe yes.

Victoria: It is. I knew it.

Elena: A hint for what?

Victoria: Well, ashland says that he has a surprise for me, but he refuses to give me even the slightest hint.

Ashland: Would someone explain to my beautiful wife the concept of a surprise?

Victoria: Wait a second. Ashland trusts you. He confides everything in you. If anyone knows what’s up his sleeve, it’s got to be you.

Nate: Okay, don’t look at me. This is the first I’m hearing about a surprise.

Ashland: You’re just gonna have to practice some patience. What about you two? Got any plans?

Nate: Hmm…work.

Elena: And more work. But I did request to have the same days off as nate. So, hopefully, fingers crossed, we can spend the holiday together.

Nate: Speaking of which…

Elena: Already?

Victoria: Oh, do you have to get back to memorial?

Elena: [ Sighing ] I wish we could stay longer.

Nate: But it’s been nice spending some time with you two.

Ashland: I couldn’t agree more. We have to do this again soon.

Nate: Well, I’d love that. Let’s do it.

Ashland: Well, let’s talk soon, alright?

Nate: Alright.

Victoria: Bye, guys.

Elena: Bye.

Ashland: You two get home safely.

Elena: We will.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] That was exactly what I needed.

Ashland: Yeah, I could tell something was bothering you as soon as you walked in.

Victoria: Oh, no. Well, I hope that you’re the only one who noticed.

Ashland: Let me guess. Billy?

Victoria: Bingo.

Ashland: It didn’t go well?

Victoria: It went…weird. When we were talking about the kids, I mean, it was shockingly civil. But when I think back about the whole thing, from start to finish, it was profoundly disconcerting. Gordan ramsey

Elena: I hope that didn’t take too long.

Nate: Long enough to grab a couple coffees for the road.

Elena: Mm.

Nate: You find your hospital id?

Elena: I sure did, and I am ready to go save some lives. And thank you for waiting. You didn’t have to.

Nate: No problem. You know, if we lived together, I could have reminded you to grab your id before we walked out the door.

Elena: Wait. What?

Nate: You heard me.

Elena: Are you asking me to move in with you?

Chelsea: What do you mean, what have I been up to? I’ve been keeping you updated the whole time I was away. Do you mean to tell me you weren’t paying attention?

Adam: Of course I was. Ask connor. He demanded to know every detail of every conversation. I don’t know. Seeing you in person, it’s different.

Chelsea: How?

Adam: It’s better. You look great. You look happy, confident.

Chelsea: Well, I’m glad to say I am all those things and more.

[ Sighs ] And I know it’s gonna take some time to convince you of that, but for now… I’m just happy to be back.

Adam: I’m glad you’re back, too.

Victoria: Of course. I mean, yeah, I’m relieved that billy seemed okay with the idea to send the kids away to boarding school.

Ashland: Well, then, why did you seem so tense when you arrived?

Victoria: Because it just concerned me that he didn’t put up much of a fight.

Ashland: Mm.

Victoria: I mean, he loves those kids more than anything in the entire world, and I made a unilateral decision to send them away. I blindsided him with the news.

Ashland: Let me get this straight. You’re disappointed that he agreed with you?

Victoria: I know it sounds ridiculous, but he was a class-a jerk for the rest of the conversation. So, his approval, it took me by surprise. I mean, he seemed bent out of shape from the moment I got there, ready for a fight.

Ashland: And you didn’t give him one — good for you.

Victoria: Well, it wasn’t easy holding back. He expressed his extreme disappointment in me and his lingering suspicion and disapproval of you.

Ashland: I’m so sorry you have to contend with that. But we can handle billy.

Victoria: Yes, but I just wish I knew what it was that we’re handling. I’m telling you. There’s something going on with him.

Billy: Being the head of a boarding school, I’m sure you are extremely busy. So, I appreciate you taking the call. Yes, that is the plan. Johnny and katie will be enrolled after the holidays. And to that point, there is something that I wanted to touch base on. I’m not sure if you’re aware, but victoria is a newman, and I’m an abbott. There’s an abundance of media coverage surrounding our families right now. And, you know, we have always gone out of our way to make sure that the children are protected from all of that. And I was hoping that I could get an assurance that you would do the same. Well, that’s great. Yeah, thank you very much. You know, their safety and their happiness is our number-one priority. And, again, no matter what the media is saying is going on back here at home, I would very much appreciate their protection from it.

Chloe: I’m glad billy has you in his life.

Lily: Yeah, I think we’re both lucky to have each other.

Chloe: You do have two very strong attributes in your favor. He clearly adores you, and you’re not a newman.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Well, look. I know billy has had some rough moments in his life, but I think this latest chapter he’ll get through just fine.

Chloe: I know you wouldn’t say that lightly. And loving someone means believing in them. But don’t let it become blind faith.

Lily: I’m not really sure what you mean.

Chloe: Billy is brilliant in his own confounding way, and he has this self-confidence that spills over to the people that care about him. And then they become convinced that he’s got everything under control until they realize that he doesn’t, and it all falls apart.

Lily: Well, I mean, I think those days are behind billy.

Chloe: I hope you’re right. And I really do hope the best for both of you.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Chloe: I guess — I guess i should get going. It was really good to see you, and best of luck with everything.

Lily: Thank you.

Adam: Hey. Fueling up for the workday?

Sally: Yeah, just a little caffeine and some brain food to get my wheels turning.

Adam: Mm. Do you mind if I join you?

Sally: Not at all. I’d love the company.

Adam: So I was — was thinking about what you said yesterday about your run-in with Billy.

Sally: Oh? ‘Cause I distinctly remember you telling me to stay out of your business with him.

Adam: Um…I had a change of heart. Sounds like he was in quite a state. Maybe you could find out more about what’s going on with him.

Sally: Are you asking me to spy for you?

throw pillows?

Abby: I did, yep, yep. I wasn’t a fan of the old ones, and apparently Dominic wasn’t either, because he spit up all over them.

[ Chuckles ] Hey, he’s got good taste. We might have an interior designer on our hands.

Chance: I’m sorry I missed that.

Abby: There will be plenty more spit-up to come.

Phyllis: Hey.

Jack: Hiya. May we all find someone to look at us the way Abby and Chance look at each other.

Phyllis: Yeah, it’s nice.

Jack: You certainly threw this party together rather quickly.

Phyllis: Well, you know, they asked me to. They — they’ve gone through a lot. They deserve it. So, I’m glad your trip was successful.

J ack:Oh, thanks. I am just in awe of my niece right now. The devotion, the dedication, the level of love is so deep and connected that, well, she seemed to know in her heart that chance was alive even when everyone was telling her there’s no way he could’ve survived.

Phyllis: Well, that is a special kind of love, when you — when you find it, you have to hold onto it with both hands.

Jack: I’m sure she’s gonna cherish it all the more knowing that she almost lost him. And what he endured, my God. Faking his own death in order to not be discovered. I don’t know anything about that. I do know it’s good that he’s home.

**************

Sharon: Hmm. So, you don’t want to dampen the festivities, I get it.

Nick: You got it. I don’t want to put Chance through any more of the Newman family drama.

Sharon: Well, just make a decision to be civil. You know, I doubt that Victoria and Victor want things to get ugly either.

Nick: It’s not that simple. I mean, earlier today, Ashland and I got into it yet again.

Sharon: What? Why? I thought that all of your issues with him were moot at this point.

Nick: It was his doing. You know, he summoned me to Newman Enterprises and basically demanded that I tell him all the reasons why I don’t like and trust him, which I did in incredible detail.

[ Sighs ] And wouldn’t you know it, Victoria just happens to walk in as I’m warning him that he better not hurt Victoria.

Sharon: Oh, no.

Nick: Yeah. I tried to tell her that this is what Ashland wanted, but she didn’t care. And then she’s the one who told me that Chance is alive, which is just further proof that I am completely out of the loop in this family.

Sharon: Wow. And here I was thinking that you were just worried you were gonna run into Phyllis and things might get a little awkward.

Billy: Ah. Can I get another one, please? Thank you.

[ Sighs ] Ah, yeah, that explains it. Could feel the joy being sucked out of the room. What are you doing here?

Victor: Well, I certainly am not sitting at a bar in the middle of the day, wallowing in self-pity and my failures.

Billy: Thank you, sir.

Victor: Is that the first one?

Billy: Ah. I think you know it’s not. I’m having an adult beverage. There’s worse things a man can do.

Victor: [ Laughs ] You certainly would know, wouldn’t you?

Billy: You know, Victor, the last time I saw you, I was a groveling, sniffling mess.

Victor: You were.

Billy: I played the sacrificial lamb, laid myself at your feet, asking for mercy. That’s not gonna happen again.

Victor: Oh?

Billy: So if you’re looking for that today, you’re gonna be disappointed

************

Victor: So, Billy boy, i understand that Victoria and Ashland made a preemptive offer for ChanceCom.

Billy: That is right, they did.

Victor: Hmm. Good move on their part.

Billy: You know, when I came to you and offered to step down from ChanceCom in order to make sure that Llily could run the company on her own without interference, thought I was gonna hear from you. But now I understand that all you want to do is watch me squirm.

Victor: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: Wait for ChanceCom to lose some value so you can come in and swoop it up. Except now you have some competition.

Victor: Do you think that you mommy, Jill, is going to accept the offer?

Billy: Do you think that I’m gonna tell you that?

Victor: Do you know why i think Victoria made that preemptive offer? To spare you the humiliation of losing to Adam. In other words, Victoria came to your rescue. Huh? But no matter how you turn this, no matter what direction you will go in, you’ll have to face the music. You’re gonna have to pay the consequence of your actions.

You are approached by a reporter.

Lily: Newman Media or another outlet?

Billy: Your choice. They ask you what the hell you’re thinking staying with the man that tanked your entire empire.

Lily: I know.

Billy: Why not just, you know, cut him loose and wash your hands of the whole thing?

Lily: You know, I would say i should, but I love him, we’re partners, and I believe in second chances.

Billy: Wow, I was half-joking, but that is one of the nicest things you’ve ever said to me.

Ashland: 10 — that’s how many times you’ve checked the phone since we arrived.

Victoria: Are you keeping tabs on me?

Ashland: Well, you’re worse than I am. You know, when I was on the verge of making a killing, I couldn’t keep my eyes off my screen. I was always checking to see if the prey I was after had rolled over in defeat.

Abby: Sorry. Dominic was fussy.

Chance: What were you saying?

Abby: [ Chuckles ] I was saying I’m sorry that it took me so long to get dominic down. I thought you were probably bored down here, all alone, but it looks like you found a way to pass the time.

I sure did. Truth is, I asked dom for some help, right? I just needed him to keep mommy a little bit occupied so I could set up down here. Champagne?

Abby: Thank you. Should I be worried that our son, who’s only a few months old, is already plotting and hatching schemes?

Chance: Oh, no, no, no, no. He had the best intentions in mind.

Abby: What a thoughtful infant.

Chance: I know, right? And get this — he even gave the nanny the night off.

Abby: He’s already making personnel decisions, too?

Chance: Can you believe it?

Abby: [ Gasps ] Well, it looks like we’re almost all alone.

Chance: Hmm. “Almost”? What do you mean?

Abby: Your grandmother.

Chance: Ahh. See, jill is staying the night in chicago tonight. Work thing.

Abby: So it’s just the two of us…

Chance: Mm-hmm.

Abby: …All alone…

Chance: Mm.

Abby: …In this very big house. Whatever shall we do to pass the time?

Chance: Hmm.

[ Glasses clink ]

Amanda: Oh. I thought you were gonna spend the whole night in the shower. It must have felt good after your run, huh?

Devon: It felt great, yeah. What’s — what’s happening here? I thought we were gonna go out.

Amanda: Ah, well, that was a decoy.

Devon: A decoy?

Amanda: Mm-hmm.

Devon: I smell something really good from the kitchen, too.

Amanda: Mm-hmm. I, um, wanted to surprise you, so I threw together some shrimp and snow peas and saffron rice. It has a little kick to it, so i hope you can handle the heat.

Devon: I think you already know the answer to that question.

Amanda: Mm. Good. And don’t get used to me cooking you gourmet dinners because after imani and I open the firm, I am gonna be very, very busy.

Devon: Ah. Well… now, I only see two plates here. What do you know that I don’t?

Amanda: Well, I know that moses is watching the game with nate. So it’s just the two of us tonight. Is that a problem?

Devon: No, I don’t have a problem at all.

Noah: [ Exhaling sharply ]

[ Sniffles ]

[ Sighs ]

Adam: Noah. Let me, uh — let me buy you a drink.

Noah: Uh…I don’t know.

Adam: So, you meeting someone? Or hoping to meet someone? I promise I won’t cramp your style. We can sit at opposite ends of the bar, if that helps.

Noah: Sure. Why not? I think you’ve earned that privilege.

[ Sighs ]

Nick: Mom! Mom?

Victor: What happened?

Nick: I got a text from mom. She said I got to come right over. What happened?

Victor: I have no clue. What’s that all about?

Nikki: I’ll tell you. I am sick and tired of the tension between the two of you. I’ve had enough of it, and the holidays are fast approaching.

Nick: [ Sighs ] That’s the emergency?

Nikki: Well, the two of you seem determined to ruin them over this ridiculous standoff, but not if I have anything to say about it. And believe me — I do. Serena: It’s my 3:10

Nick: Mother, I love you, but I do not appreciate the phony urgent message.

Nikki: Well, I’m sorry, but it was the most efficient method I had in getting you here.

Nick: I’m sure dad doesn’t like it, either.

Victor: No, no, on the contrary. I think it’s good if you and i can talk things out, okay? And if your mother used some subterfuge to get you here, that’s alright.

Nick: Clearly you learned this trick from him.

Nikki: Look, I am willing to do whatever it takes to keep this family together, and i don’t need anyone’s influence or permission to do that.

Victor: Sweetheart, we appreciate your efforts.

Nikki: Good. I’m going to leave you to sort that out, but I will not be far in case there’s trouble.

Victor: Okay, okay. Mm-hmm. So, son, what’s up?

Nick: I mean, why even try? We have talked about this a thousand times. Nothing ever gets settled.

Victor: We haven’t talked about this a thousand times. We’ve talked about this once, at your sister’s wedding, in the heat of the moment. And since that time, you’ve been avoiding me.

Nick: I’ve been busy.

Victor: Oh, yeah? Well, so have I, son. That’s why I didn’t press the issue, okay? Now, I guess most other conflicts have been solved. I mean, chance is home. Abby has her family. Victoria is happily married to ashland locke. And billy boy was kept at bay.

Nick: Thanks to adam.

Victor: Yeah. Your mother was very effective in neutralizing billy boy abbott. She doesn’t like him, you know, especially after that exposé that billy boy published.

Nick: Well, I’m not gonna defend billy, especially to you.

Victor: Please don’T.

Nick: And I can understand why you would bring up my siblings. I mean, they all seem pretty cool with the way you’re behaving. You want to work things out with me, you begin by playing us against each other. Not a great start.

Noah: So, the real question is, did you come here hoping to meet someone?

Adam: Uh, that is the furthest thing from my mind at this point.

Noah: Mm.

Adam: All I’m focused on is the business and my son.

Noah: Yeah, but you got some holiday parties coming up, right?

Adam: Mm. A few.

Noah: So, who you taking? Now, I remember you brought sally to the wedding in italy.

Adam: Mm. No. We’re just colleagues. That was, um — that was all about getting the dress she designed in victoria’s hands. Why you asking about sally? Are you, uh, interested in her?

Noah: No. [ Clears throat ] No, I was — I was just wondering. Connor had mentioned that chelsea might be coming home soon.

Adam: I hope she does. Be good for connor… and for newman media.

Noah: But not for you?

Adam: [ Sighs ] The, uh — the way that we flamed out, that was enough to scare me away from relationships altogether. So I will leave the romance to people who are much better at it than I am.

Abby: Thank you.

[ Laughter ]

[ Indistinct speaking ]

[ Laughter ] Oh, look at this one. Honestly, I thought I was getting my floors cleaned.

Devon: I got to tell you, I was very, very impressed with how delicious that dinner was.

Amanda: Yeah?

Devon: Uh-huh.

Amanda: Good, because i really wanted to surprise you. I didn’t want to go out again.

Devon: Oh, no, it was a great idea. We didn’t have to worry about running into anybody, and it could just be the two of us.

Amanda: Yeah. And it was nice to just decompress after the past few weeks that we’ve had.

Devon: I know, and if i haven’t said thank you enough for how patient you were while dominic was staying with us…

Amanda: You have thanked me many, many times. And you don’t have to, okay? Dominic is — he’s adorable, and he is the sweetest little baby.

Devon: I know, but it’s still not what you signed up for when you moved in here.

Amanda: Maybe it’s not, but, you know, I have to admit that i really have loved seeing that side of you. You know, I just — [ Chuckles ] You’re so sweet and nurturing, not to mention sexy as hell.

Devon: [ Laughs ] Well, I’m just happy that I was able to be there, you know, able to step up like that. I made a promise to dominic the day he was born that I’d always be there for him, so it’s — no. It’s good. I’m happy that chance is back home now and, you know, that everything can go back to normal.

Amanda: You know, um… I-I get it. I really understand why you have to put on a happy face for abby and for chance, but it’s just the two of us. You can tell me how you really feel.

Devon: That’s what I’m doing.

Amanda: No. I can tell that there’s a lot more in your heart that you’re not letting out. And you can trust me with this, okay? How do you feel now that dominic’s gone?

Devon: How do I feel? I mean, I got used to him being around here, so…

Amanda: And?

Devon: I miss him… every single day. I miss him so much that it hurts.

Abby: What are you thinking about?

Chance: [ Smooches ] Nothing. My, uh, mind just wandered a little.

Abby: I’m just wondering what put that frown on your face.

Chance: It’s nothing. I promise. [ Smooches ]

Abby: Okay. You don’t have to tell me. Or maybe you can when you’re ready, someday.

Chance: What I keep coming back to…you know, the thought that I’m stuck with… is the way that I left when i did. I just left. Then I was gone. We didn’t talk about it or anything. I mean, that’s just so unfair to you.

Abby: Yeah, it was a bit shocking, coming home and just finding a letter explaining what happened, why you were leaving. But that’s your sense of duty. It’s one of the things I fell in love with.

Chance: Yeah, that was my rationale at the time. It was my duty. I had to go. I mean, I don’t know. Looking back on it now, i just…

[ Sighs ] I think there might have been more to it.

Abby: What do you mean?

Chance: I mean, I think some of it had to do with what was going on between us.

Victor: Son, I honestly don’t know what you’re getting at. I mean, do you think that I have paid more attention to your siblings or what?

Nick: You know what? You can try and frame it like that, but that is not the case.

Victor: Mm.

Nick: I’m very glad that you’ve been able to help some of your children through some difficult times. I’m sure they appreciate the support. They may even think it’s gonna last.

Victor: You know that I’ll always be there for my children.

Nick: Yeah, but, see, your support is conditional. You know, it’s contingent upon us toeing the line. Vick and abby — they run businesses that you approve of. They’re in marriages that you approve of.

Victor: [ Breathes deeply ]

Nick: Why you were cool with ashland I will never understand, but maybe it’s just enough that he’s not billy. And adam? Wow. I mean, what more could anyone ask for, right? He’s loyal, follows your rules, obeys your orders. He’s no longer with chelsea, who I know you never trusted.

Victor: Never will.

Nick: But I know this period of peace and tranquility is temporary because someday soon one of them’s gonna do something that you don’t like. They’re gonna make a business decision that you disagree with or get involved with someone that you don’t care for. And then the tables will be turned because no one’s really on super solid ground with you, dad. One disagreement, and all of a sudden you’re on the outside.

Victor: And you think that’s what I’ve done to you?

Nick: Yeah. I do.

Victor: Son, why would I kick you outside? I mean, I don’t understand that. Why? Because I didn’t ask you to join me in getting rid of gaines at victoria’s wedding? Or because I didn’t ask you to help me contain billy boy’s disturbance at the wedding? Was that the test that I didn’t pass?

Abby: Alright, so, I am a little confused. What was going on between us that sent you running off to spain?

Chance: Baby, I shouldn’t have put it that way. I’m sorry. I didn’t want to leave you.

[ Sighs ] It was just — it was really hard on me, the feeling that i let you down.

Abby: What are you talking about? You’re the perfect husband.

Chance: No, I’m not. No, I’m not, abby. I failed you. I couldn’t give you a baby. I couldn’t do that for you.

Abby: No. But I thought that you had come to terms with what we had to do. I thought that you had made peace with it.

Chance: No, I — it was how I wanted to feel, not how I actually did.

Abby: Well, I wish you would have told me. I would have understood.

Chance: I know. I know, baby. And I’m — I’m sorry. I just wanted to explain what was going on in my head at the time. I-I hate saying it. I hate it. But it was almost a relief, you know, going on a mission. I knew I was good at that. At least, I thought I was good at that. But I never thought that I would be gone for so long. I thought it was gonna be a couple weeks, a month at tops, I promise.

Abby: Yeah. I thought that you’d be home before the baby was born.

Chance: I know. Me too. I understand if you’re angry at me. I mean, you have every right to be.

Abby: No. I have no room in my heart for anger because I am just so happy that you’re home. And, look, let me make one thing very clear. I wouldn’t have had a baby if it weren’t for you. I mean, this whole idea, this plan to start a family — that was all you. And I never would have been able to have the courage to follow through with it if I didn’t have your full support. So, yes, we did need help from friends to make our dream a reality, but when I look at our beautiful baby boy… all I see is this gift, this gift that you gave me. And when I thought that you weren’t gonna come home, that you wouldn’t be able to meet your son [Sighs] It killed me. So I just want you to know that, yes, you have some things that you’re going through, but you’re home. And I know that you are gonna be the most amazing father.

Amanda: I think that it’s perfectly normal for you to miss dom. You threw yourself into caring for him, and you have such a unique bond.

Devon: Yeah. I just — I never knew that — how much babies can communicate without even speaking. ‘Cause, like, I swear that i would — I would be able to know what he was feeling and what he was thinking and what his little sounds meant, you know, when he was tired or when he was hungry, and know, like, just the right things to do to get him to smile or to get him to go to bed. I’m sure chance will learn all that stuff, too.

Amanda: Yeah. I’m that he will. But I know that that doesn’t make it any less of a loss for you now that dom isn’t living here.

Devon: I don’t want you to get me wrong, either. I don’t want you to think that I’m not happy that chance is back ’cause I am.

Amanda: I know.

Devon: You know?

Amanda: Of course.

Devon: It’s just that everyone started to assume that I was gonna take over that role in dominic’s life. And even abby said it. She said that I’m — I’m the only father he’ll ever know.

Amanda: Well, that’s because she believed that at the time.

Devon: No, yeah, and so did I. Or I started to let myself believe it. I started letting myself believe that he’d call me dad one day. But he’s not gonna do that, and I have to let go of that idea. And I’m just — I’m — I haven’t figured out how to do that yet.

Amanda: It’s gonna be okay. Okay? You know, this feeling that you’re feeling right now, this pain — it’s just — it’s because you — you give away pieces of your heart. But that’s also what makes you such a good man.

Devon: I don’t know about that ’cause what I’m feeling seems like it’s selfish.

Amanda: No. No. It is not selfish. It is completely understandable. The bond that you have with dominic — it is not gonna change, no matter what he calls you. He’s always gonna know that you have his back. Devon, everyone that you love knows how lucky they are to have you in their lives. I hope you know how loved you are in return.

Devon: I know that I love you. Thank you.

Amanda: Yeah?

Devon: Yeah.

[ Both chuckle ]

Nick: The situation in tuscany could have really backfired because you didn’t keep me in the loop. I was this close to disrupting victoria’s wedding.

Victor: But you didn’t, so why are you upset about it now?

Nick: I’m saying it could have been a disaster because i didn’t have all the information. You turned to adam and shut me out.

Victor: Has it ever occurred to you that adam might have been looking for an opportunity to prove himself, that he wanted to do something that made him acceptable to the family? You never had to do that.

Nick: Don’t I?

Victor: You have often disapproved of your father’s actions, both in regard to family matters and business, right?

Nick: Yeah. Well, I think it bothers you that I have a conscience.

Victor: Do you think I was going to discuss the subtleties of morality with you in tuscany, in the midst of that crisis? You walked around as if you didn’t want to be there! So I turned to adam to assist me.

Nick: And I had no say in that matter.

Victor: I honestly did not think that you were even interested in that matter. You didn’t want your sister to get married to that guy! Right? So I didn’t think you had any input!

Nick: And there it is. If you know I’m gonna disagree with you, then you don’t have any need for me, do you? Can you understand why that would bother me?

New vicks convenience pack.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Abby: What are you doing?

Chance: I don’t think this thing is working right.

Abby: Yes, it is.

Chance: Well, I mean, i haven’t heard a noise in a long time. Have you?

Abby: Because dom is fast asleep. Hey, do not jinx it.

Chance: Okay, I’m just, like, a little worried about —

[ Dominic cooing ] Oh.

Abby: There you go.

Chance: There you go.

Abby: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. You feel better now?

Chance: Yeah.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

[ Sighs ] Don’t worry. You’ll get the hang of it. This is nice.

Chance: It sure is. I love it when it’s just you and me.

Abby: Yeah. That reminds me of when you were living in the hotel and we would stay up all night just talking about our future.

Chance: [ Chuckles ]

Abby: [ Yawns ]

Chance: Oh, you’re not staying up all night tonight, huh, sleepy?

Abby: [ Laughs ] Yes, yes, i am because I have — I have some questions I want to ask you.

Chance: Yeah? Like what?

Abby: Like what can I do to make this transition easier on you?

Chance: Oh, baby. You’re doing everything that you can.

Abby: Mm.

Chance: I got to do some of it on my own. I’ll promise you one thing. I will never prioritize work over family again.

Abby: Good. But I know how important work it to you.

Chance: Yeah, well, I’m gonna have to find a balance when i go back to the gcpd.

Abby: You know, don’t ever change for me. Who you are is exactly who i want you to be. Mm.

Chance: Close your eyes. Rest.

Noah: You know, we got so many good shots right there on the coffeehouse patio. Tess was really happy.

Adam: So, you just turned crimson lights into your own personal studio?

Noah: Yeah.

Adam: Your mom must have loved that.

Noah: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, well, you know how she is. Supportive, always down to help out.

Adam: That sounds like sharon.

Noah: And we also talked about your job offer.

Adam: Yeah? What’d she say?

Noah: She reminded me that we all make mistakes, told me that I shouldn’t hold your past against you and I should treat this opportunity just like any other and give you the chance to prove that you’re being sincere.

Adam: I did not tell her to say that, by the way.

Noah: Yeah. I believe you. It was good advice, though. It got me thinking.

Adam: Any conclusions?

Noah: [ Sighs ] I’ve decided to take you up on your offer.

Adam: I’m glad to hear that.

Victor: I think you’re reading too much into what happened in tuscany, alright? I did what I had to do. There was a crisis. I solved it.

Nick: And I’m guessing you aren’t gonna apologize for that.

Victor: Why the hell would I? I did everything in my power to ensure your sister’s happiness during her wedding! Besides that, I know what your advice would have been.

Nick: And you didn’t want to hear it.

Victor: No, I didn’T. What if I had come to you and said, “son, I’d like your advice, okay? Give it to me. Aha. Well, I don’t like it now. I’m going in a different direction.” What would you have done?

Nick: It would have been a start.

Victor: To hell with it. You would never have accepted it.

Nick: It doesn’t matter because that scenario never would happen because you don’t want to hear opposing viewpoints.

Victor: I’ve made my own judgments ever since I was a little boy! I grew up without parents! I built a huge empire and a family! Do you think I’m gonna apologize for what the hell I do?! Is that your test for me? Is that what I failed? So be it!

Chance: [ Sighs ]

[ Breathes deeply ]

Hey! It’s me! Your dry skin!

Victor: Sorry, son, that things got a little heated, okay? But I get the feeling that you’re sitting in judgment of me. I guess you don’t like what I’ve said.

Nick: Ah, you’re not the first person to say that.

Victor: Oh?

Nick: Phyllis, uh… she said something like that. She said that I, uh [Sighs] Would give her ultimatums, uh, about being who she was or we end the relationship.

Victor: I honestly don’t give a damn what that woman thinks. I just hope that, uh, you realize that you and I can disagree with one another without disrespecting each other, right? I mean, by the way, you’re the one who avoided me. To be frank with you, that was hurtful.

Nick: Yeah, uh…I know. It was just… so you know, I wasn’t doing that out of anger or frustration. You know, I’ve been really looking at the situation, talking to sharon about it. I’ve come to accept the fact that I have a huge part of this blame. I guess I hold people to different standards. You know, if they don’t, uh, fall in line with me, then i tend to wash my hands of them.

Victor: Well, wait a minute. That sounds like something i would be accused of.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] It does, doesn’t it?

Victor: Yeah. It does.

Nick: Well, then I guess my problem is that we are not too different. Maybe we’re too similar.

Victor: Yeah, well, you know, maybe we are. I’ve heard adam complain about the fact that he never knows where he stands with me. I’ve heard your sister utter the same sentiments. I just am who I am, you know? Not gonna change. But, son…you know that I would give my life for any of you.

Nick: I know you would. You just don’t always want to hear from us.

Victor: To be very honest with you, I don’t, you know? And I’m sure you’ll never have this conversation with your kids. You know, I got to tell you something. The reason you won’t have that conversation with them is because you have always been loving with them. You’ve always been there for them, from the very beginning, always been reassuring, you know? I bet you they feel very sure of themselves because of you. Which means… I think, in many ways, you have been a better father than I have been.

Devon: What are the odds of us running into each other twice in one day, man?

Chance: Well, I guess we’re just lucky, huh?

Devon: [ Chuckles ] Yeah. I’ll have what he’s having, please.

Chance: Oh, here. Have mine. I haven’t even touched it.

Devon: Oh. Is abby here?

Chance: No, she’s back at home, sleeping. Not a care in the world.

Devon: Amanda’s doing the exact same thing. And my question is, how do they do it?

Chance: Man, you are telling me. I haven’t had a good night’s sleep in a long time. You know, the seven-hour time difference still has me jacked up a little bit, so…

Devon: I can imagine. I wish I had a good excuse like that. I just can’t turn my mind off.

Chance: Yeah.

Devon: Hey, are you okay? Like, you doing alright? ‘Cause it kind of seems like you’re not.

When you have nausea,

[ Glasses clink ]

Devon: I hope I didn’t offend you.

Chance: No, man, no. Ahh. That’s very perceptive of you, actually.

Devon: Yeah?

Chance: No. I’m not okay. And — and it’s getting harder to pretend like I am.

Devon: Who you pretending for?

Chance: Feels like everyone.

Devon: Even abby?

Chance: I mean, I can — I can talk to her about some of it, but not everything.

Devon: Well, that’s unfortunate, man, ’cause I know that she would want to know what’s going on with you.

Chance: Yeah. You’re right. She would.

Devon: Yeah. She’d want to help you.

Chance: She absolutely would. She’d want to reassure me that everything is great and that i haven’t done anything wrong. And in her eyes, I’m the perfect husband and the perfect father.

Devon: You don’t see yourself like that?

Chance: Not even close.

Devon: Okay. Well, I mean, the fact that she does — that’s a good thing, right?

Chance: It’s just not who i am, man. I let her down before our baby was even born. I mean, I failed her.

Devon: I don’t know how you figure that you failed anybody. You’re home. You made it. You’re alive. You know, you have a brand-new son. You got a great wife.

Chance: Do I deserve it? You know, I made commitments to abby and dominic. I’m gonna do everything that i can to try to live up to them. But — but the question is, can I?

Nick: I never meant for this to turn into a “who’s the better father?” Contest.

Victor: Well, if that were the only contest, I wouldn’t mind losing it, you know? You know that every father wants his son to be better than them. You know that. And you are. Now, I certainly was a better father than that son of a bitch albert miller. But that was a low bar to clear.

Nick: Well, it’s pretty damn impressive, you know. You didn’t have any parents to teach you how to be a father.

Victor: No, I certainly didn’T. I didn’t have a mother or a father, you know? I just remember those dreadful people in that damn orphanage. Yeah. However, whatever good I’ve done in my life, I must say i attribute some of it to your mother.

Nick: She is amazing. But don’t sell yourself short, okay, dad?

Victor: [ Sighs ] Yeah, but, you know, in very important moments in my life, she has always been there with very good advice. She has helped me a lot. But I got to tell you something, son. You make me proud to be a grandfather. When I see you with your kids, it makes me happy. Makes me proud. Come here.

Billy: Yeah, you got big plans today?

Phyllis: Um, why are you curious?

Billy: I guess I’m not. I was just trying to be polite.

Phyllis: Oh, well, you don’t have to be polite. I don’t want to rub my exciting plans that I have for Thanksgiving in your face, you know? Because I’m sure you’re gonna be spending the holiday alone, fixing that mess at ChanceCom.

Billy: Yeah, hopefully I can fit a plate of turkey in between the damage control.

Phyllis: Good luck with that. I read that article on Ashland. Wow. And the embarrassing retraction.

******************

Gloria: Hello, Phyllis. Isn’t it a heavenly day?

Phyllis: I guess it is.

Gloria: [ Chuckles ] Must be something in the air. I feel like I’m positively glowing.

Phyllis: Well, that could be the radioactive waves emanating from your ego.

Gloria: Oh, no, silly. It’s your spa, thank you very much. I am in between treatments, and I feel absolutely transformed, like a — like a golden goddess.

Phyllis: Well, I am very glad to hear that our estheticians have done you right.

Gloria: Oh, yes, oh, yes. I am so thankful for the massages and the facials I scheduled for today, and the fact that your spa is open on a holiday. And I mean, it’s — I feel badly for the masseuses and the facialists who have to work, but I will tip them generously because JCV is doing phenomenally well under my charge.

Elena: See? No worries. Just a little heat rash. Nothing serious.

Devon: Yeah? The nanny said the same thing, but I just wanted to double-check and make for sure.

Elena: Well, I will write down the name of an ointment you can pick up at the pharmacy. It’s over-the-counter. So it should clear up in a day or two.

Devon: That’d be perfect. That’d be perfect. Thank you so much for coming by. I appreciate it.

Elena: Yeah, of course. I’m glad you called. And just got off work, so it was no problem at all.

Elena: Mm, good. You hear that, buddy? Doctor says you’re gonna be just fine. I’m gonna get you some ointment and
clear up that rash. You’ll be good to go.

[ Chuckles ] What?

Elena: It’s just… it’s nice to see you like this.

******************

Ashland: Oh, thank you, sweetheart, but, truly, there’s no cause for alarm here.

Victoria: Are you sure you’re okay?

Ashland: Mm. You know, the effects of the initial treatments that i received in Peru were — were a little rough, but the doctors told me to expect that. In fact, it’s probably good news, and it’s just a sign that the medication is doing its job.

Victoria: Maybe I should take you home.

Ashland: Well, that’s a good point.

Victoria: Not to mention a big chunk of ChanceCom consists of a division that i sold to them.

Ashland: I see where you’re going with this.

Victoria: You know, my father, he was never okay with me selling off this division to Billy. I have to think that he would be a little bit disappointed if i didn’t try to get it back.

[ Both laugh ]

Ashland: My adorably brilliant wife. I really do love the way your mind works.

Abby: My sweet boy. Hey!

Chance: Hey.

Devon: Alright, man. I am very, very excited to see what you’ve come up with for tessa’s album cover.

Noah: Yeah, I mean, we had a good photo shoot earlier, but i haven’t really had time to process the images yet.

Devon: That’s — that’s not a problem, ’cause we can go through it together and we’ll get on the same page before we loop in tessa, you know? What’s wrong?

Noah: Nothing, nothing. It’s just, you know, it’s been a while since I’ve had to preview a project while I’m still creating it.

Devon: Well, I mean, that’s just ’cause I would hate for you to put in a bunch of work and find out that it’s not what I’m looking for.

Noah: I’d hate that, too.

Devon: Yeah.

Abby: Why do you have doubts about going to society?

Chance: Because, baby, we don’t know who’s watching. Okay? These people know who i am, and even though there’s security, I’m just concerned about your safety.

Abby: But your supervisor said we’re safe and so is the mission. I thought a nice, quiet family lunch would be a good way to ease back into things. Back to normal life.

Chance: Okay, let’s go.

Abby: Really?

Chance: Let’s go.

Abby: Ah! Yay! Okay, we’re going to society, we’re going to society. I’m gonna go get dom ready. Let’s go. Let’s go. What jacket should we wear?

Chance: [ Sighs ]

Nick: So I’ve got a dilemma, and I’m thinking you might be able to help me.

Nick: Huh. Yeah, I didn’t think about that.

Sharon: Come on, nick. This is ridiculous. What did you really come here to talk to me about?

Amanda: So the house was built in 1897, and the city just kind of grew around it.

Phyllis: It’s amazing. Wow, look at that. It’s victorian, I love that.

[ Sighs ] The molding is beautiful.

Amanda: Oh, I know, I know. Imani and I, we just leased it today.

Phyllis: Congratulations!

Amanda: Thank you, thank you. Oh, it really is the perfect location, though. Ideal place to launch our firm.

Phyllis: Oh, great. When do you move in?

Amanda: Well, we still have some tweaking to do first. We’re choosing paint colors. Oh, actually, I could use your exquisite design taste.

Phyllis: Ah, thank you. I’ll help you with anything, definitely.

[ Exhales sharply ] What’s next?

Amanda: Um, well, you know, everything’s been going pretty smoothly. We filed the paperwork to start our practice. Imani, she — she passed the wisconsin bar on her first try.

Phyllis: Her first try?

Amanda: Yes.

Phyllis: That’s impressive.

Amanda: All systems are go.

Phyllis: Ah, great. I’m really happy for you.

Amanda: Yeah?

Phyllis: Mm-hmm.

Amanda: Really?

Phyllis: Mm.

Amanda: ‘Cause, I don’t know, you seem a little down in the dumps.

Phyllis: So, I mean, it’s just jack flew to new york for a meeting with kyle. Summer confirmed it. She thought I knew.

Amanda: You —

Phyllis: Yeah, I didn’t know. I didn’t know. Jack didn’t tell me, which was weird.

Amanda: Oh, that is weird.

Phyllis: Yeah, right? And then we had this really awkward — ugh — such an awkward conversation about our friendship.

Amanda: Awkward? Awkward how?

Phyllis: Well, you know, jack wanted to talk to me privately, so we went up to my suite to talk, and he said that things have been sort of strange and weird between us since I broke up with nick.

Amanda: Well, have they been?

Phyllis: Yeah. They have. I have to admit… listen, you know, it’s — he said he had feelings for me, and I can’t forget that he said it. You know, it’s like the elephant in the room, and I can’t pretend like he didn’t say it.

Amanda: Okay, so [Sighs] What do you do now?

Phyllis: I don’t know. It’s just strange. I guess I just go with it. Do you know what I mean? Like, our friendship is so strong, and I don’t want to screw anything up, so it’ll change and evolve, and I just have to wait for it to adjust.

Amanda: Adjust? I mean, adjust as in cool down or heat up?

Nick: So I found a costume that summer had made christian a couple years ago. It definitely doesn’t fit him anymore. And I don’t know, I guess phyllis had always handled this sort of thing for me.

Sharon: Well, say no more. I would be happy to make something new for christian. I mean, as long as you don’t need it right away.

Nick: No, and I don’t mean to impose.

Sharon: You’re not imposing at all. I love that kid. You know what? I’m gonna come up with something really cute for him.

Nick: Well, you are a life-saver and everybody’s rock.

Sharon: Aww. That’s a really nice compliment and kind of out of the blue.

Nick: Well, clearly, I need to praise you more often.

Sharon: You sure you don’t need something else from me?

Nick: Like what?

Sharon: Well, maybe you need someone to lean on while you get through your break-up. You said that phyllis used to handle all these things for you. Maybe you’re feeling a little lost, and sometimes it’s the small memories that sneak up on us and really get us.

Nick: Uh, no, it’s nothing like that. I’m actually surprised at how well the parting of the ways has gone.

Sharon: Really?

Nick: Yeah. When I was looking for a costume for christian, I found some stuff that I’m sure phyllis wants, and I’m gonna take it by her place later today.

Sharon: Oh, the old “giving the ex her things back.” That can be tricky. Sometimes we do that because we’re hoping to reconnect. And other times, it’s actually to punish them. Could either of those scenarios apply to you?

Noah: You know, in london, i didn’t really have many deadlines. Set my own schedule, so what are you thinking timeline-wise? Tessa and I haven’t really discussed it.

Devon: Um…I mean…how is, uh — how’s december 22nd sound? That way you have enough time for the holidays after.

Noah: Guess it just depends on how many people have to sign off on it between now and the print run.

Devon: Well, I mean, since I’m the head of the label, if i like it, then we’ll be pretty much good to go. You know, it’ll have to pass through legal and stuff like that, but I don’t want you to feel rushed, though, if you do, ’cause I don’t want it to interfere with you putting out your best work.

Noah: I appreciate that.

Devon: Yeah, no, of course. I got to ask you, though, if you prefer autonomy, how come you left london? ‘Cause it seems like you had a great gig going on there. You could work at your own pace and getting paid for it.

Noah: It wasn’t the work. I left for personal reasons.

Devon: Oh. Okay, I’ll leave that right there. Um…assuming you’re still on board, let’s take a look at what you got.

Noah: Yeah, let’s do it.

Abby: Welcome to mommy’s restaurant. Isn’t it incredible? Ooh, and the food is so good. Although you can’t try it for quite a while, but you’ll just have to take my word for it.

Chance: Hey, you better listen up to your mom. She knows exactly what she’s talking about, bud.

Abby: [ Sighs ] Tonight is gonna be so great. I’m so happy that you’re here. We’re gonna keep it super low-profile. I just want chef pamela to meet you, and she’s gonna make us one of everything on the menu. Mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm.

Chance: Well, seeing you smile has already made my time worthwhile.

Abby: Mm.

Mariah: Chance? Is that really you?

Chance: [ Sighs ]

Mariah: [ Gasps ] Need long-lasting freshness?

Chance: Wow, it’s so good to see both of you.

Tessa: Yeah, you too.

Chance: Yeah, how are you? How’re you doing?

Mariah: I’m just kind of in shock right now. I mean, I know you were home, obviously. I just — I didn’t expect to see you out so soon.

Chance: Yeah, I’m having that effect on some people these days.

Mariah: Well, I wanted to come by the house to say hi, but I know you guys needed time to settle back in.

Chance: Oh, no, no, no, it’s totally okay. I, uh — I’m actually glad that we ran into you. You’ve been on my mind, and i just wanted to thank you for everything that you’ve done for us, really. Abby told me what happened, and I’m so sorry. That’s so terrible, what you went through, and I’m just sorry that I wasn’t here to protect you or to prevent it from happening in the first place.

Mariah: Well, the kidnapping, it’s — it’s in the past. You know, I’m — I’m really trying to move on with my life and I’ve been able to, thanks to the love and support of everybody around me, especially tessa. What matters is that dominic was safe and healthy.

Abby: Don’t sell yourself short. You kept our baby safe and healthy during a really hard time. We could never thank you enough.

Chance: He’s a beautiful boy. I’m blessed. Well, on that note, would you guys like to join us? Please do.

Tessa: Oh, well, actually, we’re here for a working lunch.

[ Chuckles ] Mariah’s gonna help me pick out a new photo for my lp.

Abby: [ Gasps ] Oh, my gosh. Well, clearly, we are so excited.

[ Laughter ] Oh, yeah? For you new album. I would love to throw you an album release party.

Tessa: Oh, oh, that’s so kind of you, but, you know, I’m just gonna let devon handle that stuff. You know, they — they usually do that, right?

Abby: Yeah, totally, but if you change your mind, the offer stands. I am gonna get my two handsome men back there. We’re gonna go meet our executive chef. And, yeah, we need to go while dominic is in a good place. Huh, buddy?

[ Laughter ]

Mariah: Well, have fun, you guys.

Abby: You too. And, hey, I would love to send you guys our tasting menu, the one that we’re gonna have. My treat.

Tessa: Oh, my gosh, that’s so generous.

Mariah: That’s very sweet of you, abby. Thank you.

Abby: Of course. My pleasure. Let’s go. Say bye!

Chance: See ya.

Tessa: Well, the man looks good, considering.

Mariah: Did he seem a little off to you?

Tessa: Well, what chance went through was a lot. It’s gonna take a lot of time for him to feel safe again. Kind of like you.

Mariah: What I went through was horrible. What chance went through was unimaginable.

Nick: Alright, you’re doing it again.

Sharon: [ Chuckles ] What?

Nick: Looking too far into things. I’m not taking phyllis her stuff because I’m trying to reconnect with her or because I want to punish her. Just trying to save her a trip, that’s it.

Sharon: Mm-hmm. Well, you may feel right now that you won’t be affected when you go do this, but it could trigger some unexpected feelings, so just be prepared.

Nick: Alright, I’ve been warned. Thank you. Let’s not talk about it anymore.

Sharon: Okay.

Nick: I’ll see you later.

Sharon: Alright.

Phyllis: By “adjust,” I mean get used to it.

Amanda: Get used to what? Jack’s affection for you? Your affection for jack? Or the fact that it’s not platonic and you have absolutely no idea what to do next?

Phyllis: None of the above.

Amanda: Oh, is that so?

Phyllis: Yeah. Hey, listen, jack and I have a very good friendship, and i don’t want to do anything to screw that up. It’s very important to me. Very important. And in fact, jack said to me that he doesn’t want to get his heart broken by me again, so…

Amanda: How did you feel about that?

Phyllis: I agree. I don’t want to do that to him. So, listen, I’m just gonna get through this awkward phase because it really is awkward, and the whole thing will just work itself out.

Amanda: You know, it’s funny because I didn’t ask you what you should do. I asked you what you truly, deep-down want. Do you want to reignite things with jack?

Find your rhythm. You so upset that jack went toI respect our friendship, and i

Phyllis: Listen, amanda.

Phyllis: Listen, amanda. Every instinct I have is telling me to leave this alone. I’m not getting back together with jack. I respect our friendship, and i don’t want to hurt him again.

Amanda: If keeping things in the friend zone really was a mutual decision, then why were you so upset that jack went to new york and didn’t tell you? Because it seems to me like jack is doing exactly what he agreed to. He’s letting the relationship breathe so it can go back to normal. Would you expect a friend to tell you when they’re going away on a business trip? No. Or maybe the decision wasn’t mutual and it feels a little more like a rejection.

Phyllis: A rejection — listen to you. You are my friend, right?

Amanda: Believe it or not, this is me being a friend. Answer the question.

Phyllis: Listen, jack said that he doesn’t want a relationship with me. He said he doesn’t want his heart hurt again, and I went with it. Okay? I would kill me if I hurt him again. Really, it would kill me.

Nick: I don’t mean to barge in.

Amanda: Yeah, no worries. I’m gonna head out. Call me if you need to talk, okay?

Phyllis: Oh, I will. I will.

Amanda: Okay. Nick.

Nick: Hey.

[ Sighs ]

Phyllis: What’s that?

Nick: Just some of your stuff I wanted to return to you.

Devon: I’m very impressed with what I see.

Noah: I’m relieved to hear you say that.

Devon: Yeah, man. What’s striking is — is how you’ve really — you’ve captured tessa in every single one of those photos. Go back to the proofs real quick.

Noah: Yeah, sure.

Devon: Like this one right here. There — there’s so much soul in her eyes that you got. You can hear her single just by looking at it.

Noah: Yeah, that’s my favorite, too.

Devon: These are all great. Really great. I’m happy that tessa suggested you for the artwork, man. I was hesitant at first, given our history, but…

Noah: History… oh, you mean you dating mariah, me dating tessa before they fell for each other? That history?

Devon: That’s what I’m talking about.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: Feels like a lifetime ago, man.

Noah: I mean, it kind of was.

Devon: Uh-huh. Yeah, mariah and tessa, though, they’re still going strong. They’re doing real strong. But looking at these pictures, you can tell, even after all this time, man, you really — you really get tessa.

Noah: I mean, she’s fearless, putting herself out there like that. Very accessible.

Devon: I always kind of thought that she was a bit guarded and hard to read. But she’s — she’s obviously comfortable with showing a more open side to you. It’s nice.

Noah: Nah, it’s not me. It’s just the camera.

Tessa: You hate them.

Mariah: No, it’s actually the opposite. I love every single one of these.

Tessa: Really?

Mariah: Yeah. You know what? It reminds me of your early days, when you were performing at the underground and I would hide in the back and watch you.

Tessa: Yeah, except you couldn’t hide because there was only three people there.

[ Both laugh ]

Mariah: Wow, noah really captured something.

Tessa: Well, the way he got me to relax was actually talking about you. So if you see anything special in these proofs, it’s my love for you.

Abby: I want your unbiased opinion. We have finally transitioned to pamela’s menu and all of her dishes, although we still have a few of the favorites from when lola was here.

Chance: Well, everything’s so delicious, baby, really.

Abby: Really? Because it was a struggle to find a replacement for lola.

Chance: I still can’t believe that she would walk away like that. I mean, that must’ve been a real blow to you and society, you know?

Abby: Yeah, it was, but the opportunity in miami was stellar. I couldn’t stand in her way.

Chance: Well, you are a good person.

Abby: [ Chuckles ] Oh, I don’t know about that, but, you know, I used to be pretty selfish until I met you. You made me a better human being.

Chance: Nah, nah, I can’t take credit for that. I’m no saint.

Abby: Hey. What happened in spain was not your fault.

Chance: That’s not really what I was thinking about.

Dominic: [ Crying ]

Chance: Hey, buddy.

Abby: Shh.

Chance: Hey. Hey, you’re okay. Nope

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Abby: You guys taking off?

Tessa: Yes, and everything was so amazing. Thank you.

Abby: Oh, well, good. I’m glad you enjoyed it.

Mariah: It’s so amazing to see you back home with abby and dominic. The three of you make a beautiful picture.

Chance: Well, we have you to thank for that, mariah. And just know, you can come visit dominic any time you’d like. You’re part of the family now.

Mariah: Alright, bye, guys.

Tessa: Bye.

Chance: Did I say something wrong there?

Abby: No, no. Of course not. It’s just, well, mariah, she developed a very strong bond with dominic when they were being kept prisoner by stitch, and then after she had the baby, she had a really hard time letting go.

Chance: Oh. Well, that doesn’t surprise me. I mean, alone for that long, terrified, feeling responsible for protecting a baby. She was carrying our baby. I mean, that’s rough. Dom was the only connection she had.

Abby: Is that what it was like for you after the explosion?

Chance: Yeah. Yeah, if kim hadn’t been there, I — I’m sure I would’ve lost my mind.

Abby: Well, I am so thankful for her. I don’t know what I would’ve done if she hadn’t saved you. Are you thinking about all your team members, the ones who weren’t saved?

Chance: Yeah, always. Every minute of every day.

Abby: I just — I wish i could say something to make you feel better.

Chance: No, there’s just some wounds that words can’t heal.

[ Sighs ]

Amanda: [ Sighs ]

Devon: Hey, you.

Amanda: Hey. Oh, I’m sorry. I can head upstairs if you guys are having a meeting.

Devon: No, it’s fine, we’re just wrapping up. Let me introduce you two. Amanda sinclair — mwah — this is noah newman.

Amanda: Ah, noah.

Noah: Nice to meet you.

Amanda: Newman — the artist, right? You did the art installation for victor’s tribute.

Noah: Yes, I did.

Amanda: It was brilliant. Lights and shadows.

Devon: He’s designing tessa’s album cover. It’s gonna be a work of art.

Amanda: Oh.

Noah: Well, I hope so.

Amanda: Well, I am opening a new law firm downtown. I mean, I know you’re probably way too busy to even consider designing a corporate id package, but, you know, if you’re looking for a new project, let me know.

Noah: Thank you. I’ll keep that in mind.

Amanda: Okay.

Noah: But now that we’ve met up, I’ll talk to tessa and show her the images, see which ones she likes. Hopefully she likes them as much as we did.

Devon: Thanks, man.

Noah: Thank you, man.

Devon: Appreciate it.

Noah: Nice meeting you.

Amanda: Yes, you too.

Devon: What are you smiling about?

Amanda: I don’t know. I like watching you in action.

Devon: You do?

Amanda: Yeah, I do.

Devon: Really?

Amanda: And I don’t see you in work mode very often. But look at you, you’re good at handling the creative folks.

[ Both laugh ]

Devon: Well, I’m more accustomed to the musicians, but…

Amanda: Yeah, well, noah, he seemed relaxed and he seemed to trust you.

Devon: Yeah, well, we’ve known each other for a while. Took a second with the images, but I think we came to a good understanding.

Amanda: Mm, well, it does take a certain skill-set to manage artists. You know, one part charm, one part flattery, one part authenticity. Making sure that they know that their work is valued and also coaxing the best out of them, and, you know, giving them a certain sense of flexibility.

Devon: You got all that from just watching me for a few minutes.

Amanda: I don’t know what to say, it’s my superpower.

Devon: [ Chuckles ] You’re in a very happy mood today. I know it can’t just be from watching me and my great managerial skills, so…

Amanda: Well, life is good. Really good. In fact, I want to take you out to lunch to celebrate.

Nick: Just, you know, found some stuff I thought you might want back.

Phyllis: I’ve been looking for this all over the place.

Nick: I know it’s not one of your go-to looks. That’s probably why it was buried in the back of the closet.

Phyllis: This doesn’t spark joy for you?

Nick: No, I used to love watching you fill that up with coffee every day and constantly reminding me of who exactly was in charge. You never got tired of that joke.

Phyllis: Wasn’t a joke.

Nick: You know what? Doesn’t seem like it’s super sentimental. I could’ve just tossed it.

Phyllis: This is loaded with “prime aggression 6.” This is — I mean, this was my valentine’s day gift to you.

Nick: I mean, it’s your favorite game. You should have it.

Phyllis: Yeah, but I gave this to you for valentine’s day. I mean, this was the greatest valentine’s day gift ever. I mean, besides that sign you got me from pepe’s roadhouse.

Nick: Where we had our first wedding.

Phyllis: I’m glad that sign isn’t in the box.

Nick: Wouldn’t fit. Smooth dark chocolate, refreshing peppermint,

Nick: [ Sighs ] You know, I’m sorry I brought this and made things…

Phyllis: I’m glad you brought it. It means that we weren’t wasting our time. It’s very sentimental.

Nick: I have never, ever thought that any time we spent together was a waste, and i never will.

Phyllis: I never will either. So how are you doing? Has the tension in your family eased up?

Nick: Well, I’m mostly avoiding them. Does that count?

Phyllis: Uh-huh, it does, because it’s basically what I’ve been telling you to do all along.

[ Chuckles ] Um, listen, I noticed that you came by chance’s party and you didn’t stay long.

Nick: Yeah, ashland’s trying to play, like, peacemaker between me and vick.

Phyllis: How’d that go?

Nick: Not great. Vick accused me of pushing everyone away in my life, including you.

Noah: Hey, mom.

Sharon: Hey.

Noah: Have you seen tessa?

Sharon: Uh, not since the shoot. She and mariah went to society to grab lunch and review the photos that you sent them. And clearly they didn’t want me looking over their shoulder, giving my two cents.

Noah: Really?

Sharon: Well, I do want to see your work. Maybe if I’m lucky, you’ll show me.

Noah: Oh, I just left a meeting with devon to get his thoughts, but I think it’s only fair that tessa and I have a chance to review before my mom weighs in.

Sharon: Well, it was worth a shot.

Noah: No pun intended.

Sharon: [ Laughs ] Look at you, all fired up. Maybe this project was just the boost you needed.

Noah: Mom, I told you, you don’t have to worry about me, okay? I’m doing fine. I just needed to get re-acclimated from london and start working again.

Sharon: Who’s worried? I’m delighted to see you doing something that you’re really enjoying.

Noah: Yeah, this album, it’s — it’s really got my creative juices flowing again. Thanks to tessa. She makes it easy.

Amanda: Got everything?

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Abby: [ Gasps ]

Amanda: Oh.

Devon: Hey, look who’s out and about.

Abby: Yes, yes, past tense. We are heading out. Dominic’s a little fussy.

Devon: Oh. How you, uh — how you settling back in to the life in town, man?

Chance: Not bad, man. One day at a time, right?

Devon: Yeah. How you doing, little guy? What’s up? Mommy says you’re being fussy. Don’t do that.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: Don’t do that.

Abby: Oh, I wish I knew your secret, especially at 3:00 A.M.

[ Chuckles ]

Amanda: Yeah, when dom was at our place, devon had the magic touch.

Devon: Oh. Well, I’m just that boring, I’ll put any baby to sleep, you know?

Chance: Well, we should probably get him back.

Abby: Yeah, yeah. Bye.

Devon: Okay.

Amanda: Bye.

Devon: See you guys.

Abby: See ya.

Devon: Bye, buddy.

Abby: Say bye!

Amanda: Are you okay?

Devon: Yeah, of course. Read my eyes.

Phyllis: Well, victoria doesn’t know anything about our relationship. She’s not one to judge.

Nick: And now you know why i left early.

Phyllis: Well, I’m sorry you had to deal with that.

Nick: Hey, it goes with the territory, you know? This avoidance strategy I’m using right now is eventually gonna have to end. I’m gonna have to try and work things out with my dad, but for now, just happy to be focusing on new hope and christian, and faith’s doing very well. Absolutely love having noah at home.

Phyllis: You’re lucky to have your kids home. I really miss summer. I miss daniel.

Nick: I know.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Phyllis: Is there a problem?

Nick: Uh, something’s up. I got to go.

Phyllis: Oh, okay. I hope it’s not serious.

Nick: Yeah, me too.

Phyllis: Thanks for bringing this stuff by.

Nick: Yeah, no problem. Okay, I’ll, uh… bye.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Mariah: I agree with noah. Tessa is an ideal subject. But the photos that you took were phenomenal. It was hard to choose just one.

Tessa: But we did, and I hope it’s the same one that you liked.

Noah: There is one that I’m leaning towards, and I just had a great meeting with devon and he agreed.

Tessa: What, you — wait, you chose without me?

Noah: No, no, no, no, it wasn’t anything like that. He just — he wanted to see where I was going with this, make sure he liked my take.

Sharon: And it sounds like he did.

Noah: Yeah, definitely. You know, but, tess, you are in complete creative control. I mean, you’re the artist, you’re the songwriter. This whole project is about you. You have final say. I am just working in service of your vision.

Tessa: Okay, cool.

Mariah: Well, come on, enough with the suspense. Show him which one you like.

Tessa: Okay. Um…

Noah: [ Chuckles ] Well, that’s a relief.

Tessa: What, really? No way, we chose the same one?

Noah: Yeah, mind meld. It’s a beautiful thing.

Tessa: [ Laughs ]

Sharon: Well, congratulations. Now, can I see? Oh, my gosh. Noah, that is stunning.

Noah: And the mom vote clinches it. Number 17, unanimous, case closed.

Tessa: Hooray!

[ Laughs ]

Mariah: Well, that’s a great collaboration that you guys did. It seems like you’re off to a great start. Unfortunately, I have to get back to work, so I will see you later, okay?

Tessa: Okay.

Mariah: Bye.

Noah: See ya. Really, you thought I’d choose one without you?

Tessa: Yeah.

[ Laughter ] Hey, is everything okay?

Mariah: Yeah, everything’s great. It’s just it’s nice to see you laughing and happy.

Tessa: Well, I am happy and giddy and in love.

Amanda: I am already getting calls from potential clients who’ve heard that I’m opening my own practice. Can you believe it?

Devon: Yeah, of course I can believe it, yeah. You know who you are? Did you forget?

Amanda: Wow, there’s that charm I was talking about.

Devon: No, I’m being sincere.

Amanda: [ Sighs ] Well, at this rate, we are gonna be backlogged before the paint is even dry. Oh, speaking of which, did you get a chance to look at the paint colors that I told you about? I mean, I really love the dove gray, but imani wants to go with something bolder. You know that there are consultants for this? Like, not just designers, actual consultants. Like, real specialists. Imani, she knows this paint guru who charges more per hour than most lawyers do. I mean, I told her that I’m pretty sure that we could pick a paint color on our own. Right?

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Amanda: Wow, your eyes are glazing over.

Devon: No.

Amanda: I was talking about throw pillows and wallpaper — the kiss of death.

Devon: I’m listening to what you’re saying, I am. It was — you said something about a bird.

Amanda: A bird? Dove gray.

Devon: Dove gray.

Amanda: [ Chuckles ] Okay, never mind. I know your mind’s been somewhere else ever since we sat down.

Devon: I’m sorry.

Amanda: No, you don’t have to be sorry. You thinking about dominic?

Devon: I’m not, actually. I was thinking about chance. Um…how did he seem to you when we saw him? Did he seem a little uneasy being out in public?

Amanda: Not more than expected.

Devon: No?

Amanda: No, I don’t — I mean, this is — I don’t even think it’s about being in public, you know? He’s a brand-new dad and he’s getting used to the baby that he just met for the first time.

Devon: Yeah. I know, I just can’t help but worry.

Amanda: About what?

Devon: About dominic, ’cause, you know, it reminds me of when abby was grieving and just knowing the babies pick up on every little thing. And I — I don’t want to think about dominic taking in his parents’ stress.

Chance: Hey, big guy. Who’s my big dude? You’re my big dude.

Abby: I hate to interrupt this, but somebody needs a nap.

Chance: It’s nap time.

Abby: It’s nap time.

Chance: Oh, my gosh.

Abby: Come here.

Chance: Go nap it up.

Abby: Say “see you after, dad.”

Chance: See you, bud. Hey. Oh, yeah. Have a good nap.

Abby: [ Chuckles ] Let’s go nap it up, huh?

Chance: [ Exhales sharply ]

[ Sighs ]

[ Cellphone rings ] Hey, mom. Oh, yeah, I’m good, I’m good. How’s australia? Well, good. That’s awesome. No, no, I wish you wouldn’T. I’m okay. I promise. Yes, yes, I mean it. Well, no, you don’t have to rush back right now, okay? You just got there. It’s a long trip, too. Don’t worry about it. Yeah, everything’s — everything’s good. Everything’s good. Okay, I love you. I miss you like crazy, and i promise you I’m fine.

Next week on

“the young and the restless”…

Billy: I’m in control, okay? I have never been more focused in my life.

Lily: Well, if that’s true, then there’s something I want you to do and you’re not gonna like it.

Elena: Wait, what?

Nate: You heard me.

Elena: Are you asking me to move in with you?

Devon: Hey, are you okay? You doing alright? ‘Cause it kind of seems like you’re not.

Chelsea: So tell me, what did I miss?

Victoria: Oh!

[ Gasps ] How lovely.

[ Chuckles ] Well, what is this about?

Ashland: It’s about me being thankful for every day of my life that I have with you.

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

Ashland: And how thankful i am. And I just got some results back from my oncologist. There’s been no further spread of the cancer.

Victoria: [ Gasps ] Oh, my god! It’s everything that we were hoping for.

Ashland: Well, just hold on. I mean, it’s not a diagnosis of remission yet, but…the news is positive and it’s as good as we can hope for this early in the treatments.

Victoria: We need to celebrate.

[ Knock on door ]

Ashland: Love the idea.

Lily: Hello. Sorry, I hope I’m not interrupting. Victoria, I needed to discuss something with you.

Billy: [ Sighs ] Oh, this is, um — this is perfect. This is really wonderful. You’re exactly who I want to see.

Tessa: Hey, sharon.

Sharon: Hey.

Tessa: How’s it going?

Sharon: Pretty good. I’m excited about the holidays right around the corner.

Tessa: Yeah, here before you know it.

Sharon: You know, I’m kind of struggling with getting the perfect gift for mariah. Um…do you have any ideas? Has she mentioned anything?

Tessa: Not specifically. But I’m sure that you’re gonna come up with just the right thing.

Sharon: Well, let me know if she drops any hints.

Tessa: Yes, for sure. I’m sure that you are so excited to have noah home for the holidays.

Sharon: Yeah, it’s gonna be wonderful having the kids with me this christmas. You know, I’ve always supported and encouraged the kids to follow their dreams, wherever that may take them, but I am hoping that noah makes this a permanent move.

Noah: Hey, guys. What did I just walk in on?

Mariah: Yeah. Okay, that sounds great. I will send out an e-mail this afternoon confirming with everybody. Alright, bye.

Victor: Well, mariah, how nice to see you. You were missed last night at the party we gave for chance, you know.

Mariah: Oh, yeah, I’m — I’m so sorry I couldn’t make it. Um, I just got caught up with work and I couldn’t get away. You know how crazy busy things get before the holidays.

Victor: I certainly do, yeah.

Mariah: But I’m so sorry that I missed it. You know, it’s amazing that chance is alive and well and he’s back with abby and the baby.

Victor: It is just absolutely stunning and we are all overjoyed, you know?

Mariah: Yeah, bowie is so lucky to have both of his parents.

Victor: Bowie?

provided by…

Mariah: “Bowie” is just this little nickname that I gave the baby while I was carrying him. You know, got hard to keep calling him “little man” or “hey, you.”

Victor: I see. Bowie, that’s cute. I know that chance and abby are eternally grateful to you. After everything you’ve gone through, you delivered the child safely to them. And I’m sure that chance would have loved to tell you that in person.

Mariah: How is he, by the way? I know he went through such an ordeal.

Victor: Well, so have you. I will never forget what you have gone through to deliver that child. And I will see to it that you get justice. If you ever need anything, anything at all…

Mariah: I’m fine. Victor, thank you, though. I really appreciate, you know? I’m just trying to move on with my life.

Victor: I’m glad to hear that. Just know that you and chance will always be loved and supported by the entire family. Okay? Now, I have a meeting to go to, and I don’t want you to be late for whatever you have to do. Don’t forget my promise, okay?

Mariah: Absolutely.

Victor: Okay. Nice to see you. And thank you.

Sharon: Oh, I was just talking christmas present ideas with tessa. But don’t you try to get any information out of us.

Noah: Oh, got it. No, I wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise anyway.

Sharon: [ Chuckles ] Excuse me, I have some work to do.

Noah: Hey, let’s grab a table. I have some ideas about your album I want to run by you.

Tessa: Okay. Great. I can’t wait to hear.

Noah: So I want to take some photos of you, and then choose the strongest out of the bunch to build off of. Now, I really want to capture you at your most honest and raw, just like your songs. You know, stripped down, simple, in a beautiful way. I think your album cover should reflect that place deep down inside that inspires you.

Tessa: Oh, sounds intense. Cool.

Sharon: You’ve come a long way from that young woman busking by the patio.

Tessa: Yeah, I mean, yeah, I guess there’s been a lot of changes, but there’s still that person in me. You know, that’s the part of me that feels passion about my music and what I want to say, even if it’s just an audience of one.

Noah: I got it. I got it. I know exactly what I want to do with you and just how to get there.

Ashland: Look, victoria, we can finish discussing this later. I’ll let you two talk. Bye. Excuse me.

Victoria: Well, congratulations on your pending appointment to the top spot at chancellor industries.

Lily: Thank you. It’s quite an honor.

Victoria: You know, despite everything that’s happened, I — I have a tremendous respect for you, and not just as a businesswoman.

Lily: Wow, thank you for saying that. It’s very kind. And I also really appreciate you trying to buy chanccomm, ’cause if it were to end up in adam’s hands, that would make my blood boil, so I really hope that you and ashland are stilling to acquire it.

Victoria: Yes, it is a possibility. How is billy doing? I know this must be a difficult time for him.

Lily: Well, actually, that’s why I’m here. I wanted to talk to you about something, and just so you know, this is really hard for me. I wasn’t sure if I should even discuss this with you.

Victoria: Well, you’re here now, so…

Lily: Uh, I know billy really well, and even though he’s trying to hide it, I can tell that he’s devastated by this. And I know that you’ve lived through something like this with him before, but I haven’t, so this is new territory for me.

Victoria: And you’re worried that he’s gonna fall back into his old addictive, self-destructive behaviors.

Billy: You know, I’d think you’d be proud of me. I have a full-time job — making sure you and victor don’t get your grimy little fingers all over chanccomm.

Thanks. No one can deliver your mom’s homemade short ribs.

Noah: Alright, so here’s what I’m thinking. I want to shoot you out here, you know, where you used to perform before making it big. I really want to capture the energy and the spirit of that time.

Tessa: I love it. Recreate the vibe.

Noah: Yeah, I mean, it’s in your soul. It’s who you are.

Tessa: It’s where I’m from.

Noah: Hey, mom, do you mind if we close off the patio to customers for a bit?

Sharon: Absolutely. I’ll put a sign on that door so that customers will know to come in the front.

Tessa: Uh, so what do you think of what I’m wearing?

Noah: It’s perfect.

Tessa: Oh, cool, so I don’t have to go back and change.

[ Both chuckle ]

Noah: See, this — this is how I like to work. You know, no one looking over my shoulder, micro-managing my every move.

Tessa: Oh, yeah, me too.

Noah: You know, speaking of micro-managing, adam actually asked me to do some more freelance work for newman media.

Tessa: Well, that’s a good thing, right?

Noah: I don’t know.

Sharon: I think it’s a great idea. It’s an excellent opportunity for you to showcase your amazing talent, and you’re gonna get well paid for it. And you’re gonna be contributing to a family business.

Noah: Yeah, but, on the other hand, it’s adam.

Tessa: Yeah, that could be a deal-breaker.

Sharon: Well, I don’t think you should just write him off like that, you know? You could at least give him some credit for the positive changes he’s made.

Noah: Oh, in comparison to everything else he’s done to us?

Sharon: Look, I know better than anyone how toxic any relationship with adam can be, but I’m sincerely convinced that he’s determined to live his life differently now. He’s working hard on overcoming his old destructive ways, and i think that you’ve seen some of that, too.

Noah: Look, I appreciate what he did for faith, I really do, but I don’t know if I buy that he’s a completely different person now.

Sharon: Okay, well, do me a favor — just approach this like any other job offer. Look at the work and don’t base your decision on things that adam’s done in the past. Base it on who he is right now. Can you promise you’ll try to do that?

Adam: Is it finished? Alright, good, I need it as soon as possible.

[ Telephone rings ] Yeah. Yeah, we’re working on that right now. I should have it by this afternoon. Right. Alright, thanks.

Victor: Hey, son.

Adam: [ Exhales sharply ] I was beginning to think you were avoiding me.

Victor: Now, why would I be avoiding you? I’ve been dealing abby’s and then chance’s return, okay? So what’s the reason for the urgency?

Adam: Chanccomm. There’s no time to waste. We have to put together a strong proposal, something aggressive, that will knock jill’s socks off, especially since we’re gonna be dealing with highly motivated competition.

Victor: Right. Now, about that, I’ve decided to let victoria bid for chanccomm without our interference.

Adam: What changed your mind?

Lily: I’ve never seen billy like this before, and I want to be prepared for what might come.

Victoria: You want to know the warning signs, if he’s falling back into his old bad habits.

Lily: Yeah, I’m sure you thought of the possibility that billy could backslide if he lost chanccomm. Which I’m assuming is one of the reasons why you offered to buy, to keep it out of adam’s hands. Because if adam were to have it, then he would just rub it in billy’s face.

Victoria: And that could serve to push billy even closer to the edge, if not over it.

Lily: Yeah, and I feel like billy looks at what’s happened as already a huge failure.

Victoria: He brought a lot of this on himself. As you know, he used that damning and unsubstantiated evidence against ashland to try to blackmail my father and my brother.

Lily: [ Scoffs ] Okay, well, victoria, let’s be honest. All of that information was true. I mean, I don’t condone the way that billy chose to use it, and, yes, he’s paying the price, but do you really feel like the punishment matches the crime, that he should just lose everything?

Victoria: I had no idea that billy would take the initiative and step down on his own.

Lily: Well, you made it very clear that if you and ashland were to purchase chanccomm, that he would be out. I mean, sometimes I really feel like you only want to help billy when it benefits you. But doesn’t the father of your children deserve better?

Victoria: What are you really doing here, lily? Did you want my advice or did you want to rake me over the coals? Psoriatic arthritis, made my joints stiff,…

Victoria: I am not gonna get into justifying my actions as ceo of newman/locke. However, I will tell you what to look for if billy suffers a relapse.

Lily: Thank you. I appreciate that.

Victoria: Well, first of all, there will be times when he’ll just go missing. And his excuses for where he’s been, they just won’t add up. There will be inconsistencies to his stories. You’ll know that he’s lying to you.

Lily: Do you mean, like, outright lying to my face?

Victoria: Yes. He will start drinking again at odd hours of the day and night, but most of all, there will be times when he’s on a manic high, like he’s on top of the world and he’s completely invincible. Everyone is wrong, and yet he is right and no one can see it but him.

Lily: Wow, I mean, I knew it could be bad, but this sounds pretty ugly.

Victoria: Yes. Well, any combination of these signs means that he’s headed for a fall. And I truly hope that if you see any patterns like this, you’ll let me know. I have the children to think about.

Lily: Yeah, absolutely. Um, thank you so much for your candor. And please let this conversation stay between us.

Victoria: Of course.

Lily: Have a good day.

Adam: By all means, hand victoria a competing media company on a silver platter. I mean, you have to know that she’s gonna use chanccomm to come after us just like billy did.

Victor: I’m doing this for victoria, son. Let her have this win, okay? She should never have sold the media division of newman enterprises to billy boy in the first place.

Adam: She claimed that cutting that division loose was a business move, like it was some part of a restructuring deal, but really, what it was, dad, is a gift to billy.

Victor: Well, now it goes back to newman enterprises where it belonged in the first place.

Adam: So let me get this straight — victoria’s lousy decision gets made right for her and I just continue having to be the scrappy underdog.

Victor: Just remember, son, people always root for the underdog.

Adam: I just can’t help but wonder if you have another motive. One that you’re not sharing with me. You hoping for a media war with your children? Is this another one of your little tests?

Noah: So just set yourself up the way you did back in the day when you were playing for spare change.

[ Chuckles ]

Tessa: Uh…okay. Hmm.

[ Camera shutter clicks ]

Noah: Alright, good. Good. And you know what? Feel free to play a little bit if it makes you feel more comfortable.

[ Playing guitar ]

[ Camera shutter clicking ] So how’s it feel recreating the past?

Tessa: Uh, it feels like, um…I’m tapping back into something that I didn’t know was still there.

Noah: It’s nice to let the soul guide you sometimes, you know, follow your gut emotions.

Tessa: Yeah, I mean, that’s how I write. You know, the best things come from, I don’t know — from my heart.

Noah: Same here. Now, I’m assuming for you it’s that first right note, but for me, it’s that first perfect image. After that, I know everything else I do will be good.

Tessa: Yeah, yeah, no, exactly.

Noah: That’s what makes you such an incredible artist — that passion you have for your music, it comes through every lyric, every strum of the guitar. I saw that gift at your first session at devon’s studio.

Tessa: Oh, wow. You remember that.

[ Laughs ] I was such a nervous wreck.

Noah: I know, but you worked through it. Released your first single, and the rest is history. I was so proud of you. Mariah was, too. You know, she was there that day because devon, he knew you’d want her there. I guess he saw that connection back then.

Tessa: Yeah, I mean, mariah’s been there through this entire crazy, wild ride. We’ve been through so much together.

Noah: Tell me about that.

[ Camera shutter clicks ]

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Tessa: I mean, I can’t believe how lucky I am to have mariah in my life. None of this would’ve happened without her love and support. She believed in me when I barely believed in myself.

Noah: Yeah, everyone needs a mariah in their life.

Tessa: Yeah. [ Chuckles ] There was this, um, music producer, and, yeah, she kept overproducing my songs and she wanted me to have this image that just wasn’t who I wanted to be. And mariah was the one who gave me confidence to stand up to her. She encouraged me to be who i am.

Noah: And look how that worked out.

Tessa: Yeah, I know, it really did. Funny enough, mariah produced a music video where I performed in public places.

[ Both chuckle ] On a rooftop, on a fire escape, on a swing.

Noah: Great minds.

Tessa: You know, I — I don’t think that I really knew what it was to be in love or to be loved unconditionally.

[ Camera shutter clicks ] It’s, uh, exhilarating, but it’s hard, too. Especially when you see your person hurting and there’s nothing you can do to take the pain away. All you can do is hurt with them and feel all the things that they’re feeling, including the kind of love that just consumes you and gets into your very being and fills you up. And when times are good, it makes you so happy that your heart aches.

[ Camera shutter clicks ]

[ Knock on door ]

Ashland: Did you and lily get things straightened out?

Victoria: Well, she came to me because she’s worried about billy and what this huge reversal might do to him emotionally.

Ashland: A fear that you also share.

Victoria: Yes, but lily has never dealt with billy falling off the wagon. So she wanted my advice and my insight on what the warning signs might be.

Ashland: Must not have been easy for her to come to you like this.

Victoria: But that just shows you how concerned she is about the place that he’s in. She asked me to say nothing to him about our conversation.

Ashland: Well, and what did you tell her?

Victoria: Well, I shared with her what to look out for, even though no one can be truly prepared for something like that. You know, the whole conversation reminded me how bad things can get. Billy can turn into a completely different person. You know, I am more convinced now that sending the kids to boarding school after the holidays, it’s the right thing to do.

Ashland: And have you talked to billy about that?

Victoria: No, not yet. It’s gonna be a difficult conversation, but I have to make him see that it’s for the best.

Lily: Hey, sorry I’m late.

Billy: It’s okay, no worries.

Lily: I’m sure you’re feeling pretty awful.

Billy: I’m fine. Right now I’m focused on getting back at the bastards who are responsible for driving me out of here in the first place.

Lily: I know. I know that you’re determined to go through with your plan.

Billy: Laid a little bit of ground work. Ran into adam, and right now he believes that I’m the mess that he’s expecting me to be. Bought it hook, line, and sinker, and he was loving every minute of it. Pretty sure he believes I’m falling off the rails right now, and it was his doing. And I bet he’s trying real hard to figure out how to best exploit me.

Lily: Well, good. That’s what you want.

Billy: Yeah, well, adam and victor were pretty sure that i was gonna spiral out of control, and that’s what I’m gonna let them believe. That I am blowing up my life. That’s the plan.

Lily: Well, I also had a very interesting conversation today with victoria.

Billy: Really? Did she track you down or is she still thinking about putting in a bid for chanccomm?

Lily: We chatted about that briefly, but, no, I went to go see her.

Billy: Okay. Why?

Lily: To ask what the warning signs might be.

Billy: Warning signs of what?

Lily: Well, I wanted to know what to look out for in case you start to backslide.

Billy: Are you worried about me? Lily, do you think that I’m actually gonna fall apart? (Vo) try all cinnamon toast crunch flavors, blasted with cinnadust! I wish we had a sled as fast as cricket 5g.

Sharon: Mariah, what are you doing here? Noah and tessa are out on the patio doing a photo shoot.

Mariah: Yeah, I know. I just, uh, watched them for a little bit. But I didn’t want to interrupt the creative flow. I am sure noah’s gonna make something really special, something very uniquely tessa.

Sharon: I have no doubt. But you know what? I’m glad that you and I have a moment alone together to chat because I was thinking about what we were talking about last night, about you not going to the party celebrating chance’s return. I know what you said was the reason, but…what did you not say?

Mariah: What do you mean?

Sharon: Well, it seems like you see these feelings of attachment toward the baby as something bad or that you should be ashamed of.

Mariah: No, not really. They were just incredibly overwhelming at first, which is why I needed to get out of the chancellor house, so I could deal with them. And I have.

Sharon: No, I know. Honey, I’m really proud of all the progress you’ve made, but, you know, there’s no time limit. You shouldn’t feel like you have to suddenly be over it. You went through a traumatic ordeal. And I think that chance, more than anyone, understands that.

Mariah: Funny, because I ran into victor earlier, and he said something incredibly similar. That was after I lied to him about why I didn’t make it to the party. Which, of course, I’m sure he picked up on.

Sharon: [ Chuckles ] But you see? I hope you know everyone supports you. No one is judging you at all, and you have no reason to think about yourself as a problem.

Mariah: No, it’s — it’s not like that. I don’t — that’s not why i didn’t go to the party. It wasn’t me obsessing over the baby. That’s not happening anymore. Look, abby and chance have a lot to deal with now, and I don’t want to be another complication.

Sharon: You are not a complication.

Mariah: No, no. Not me, just the situation. You know, while chance was gone, life here, it went on. And now he’s been dropped back into a marriage that he’s basically been awol from and add a new baby on top of that? I mean, it’s got to be really hard to adjust. And, I mean, bowie’s got to be picking up on that.

Sharon: Well, I’m sure it’s hard for all of you to adjust, but what’s important is that you’re sensitive to each other, you support one another, you know, for the sake of the baby.

Mariah: Exactly. Look, dominic is always gonna be at the forefront of my mind, and this situation, we have to make decisions on what is gonna be best for him.

Noah: You know, we really got some great stuff today. I can’t wait to show you. I really want to work with how the grittier past influences your work now, you know?

Tessa: Yeah, I mean, I love that direction. So, normally, I hate photo shoots, but with you, it was effortless. You made it so natural and easy. I feel like this was something special.

Noah: Yeah, it was.

Billy: Wow. I expect that out of jack and victoria, but not you.

Lily: Okay, come on. Just hear me out, okay? I went to go see victoria as part of your plan. I wanted to plant the seed in your head that you’re headed for some type of fall, and I needed an artful way of doing that.

Billy: Okay. That’s actually very clever.

Lily: Thank you. I thought it’d be normal that I’d want to know what the warning signs are.

Billy: Okay. And now that you do?

Lily: Well, I mean, I’ll be honest, you know, it did give me some doubts.

Billy: Okay, there we go.

Lily: No, stop, stop. Look, I love you, okay? And I believe in you and I trust you. And I really wish that things hadn’t turned out the way that they did and I wish you were coming to chancellor with me, but I understand why you can’T.

Billy: Do you really?

Lily: I do, yeaH. I realize now that this wasn’t about business or a company takeover. This was a personal attack on you, which makes it a personal attack on me. And I don’t think adam should get away with that. I think he needs to be held accountable. And I want you to be able to clear your name so that you can move on from this.

Billy: Well, amen.

Lily: And I also realize that victoria was a part of all of this. I mean, whether she was a willing participant or turned a blind eye, I mean, she was willing to let this happen to you. And meanwhile, her husband is getting away with all of his crimes, you know, that he’s built his entire life and fortune on. But anyway, I am sorry if I made you think for a second that i had broken trust with you.

Billy: But you didn’T. You’ve been open and honest from the beginning. And given my past, it makes sense that you would want to know what you’re in for.

Lily: And I want you to know that I’m not gonna give up on you the way that your ex did. And I probably should’ve talked to you before I went to go see her, but it’s all a part of your plan. If she thinks that you’re headed for some kind of relapse, i mean, that’s the narrative that you want to create.

Billy: And it’ll get back to victor and adam, and it’ll reinforce exactly what they think about me.

[ Sighs ] It’s actually kind of perfect. You are kind of perfect.

Lily: Wait, I’m sorry, “kind of”?

[ Both chuckle ]

Billy: I love you, and I am grateful that you are in this with me.

Lily: Aww.

Victoria: Oh, dad. Oh, I’m so excited that you stopped by. We have something to tell you.

Victor: You do?

Victoria: Yes. Ashland got some good news from his oncologist.

Ashland: I’m happy to report there’s been no further spread of the cancer.

Victor: Ashland, that is wonderful news indeed.

Ashland: It is.

Victor: In other words, the treatment in peru worked?

Ashland: So far, yeah. Things are looking up.

Victor: Wow. I’ll be damned.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ]

Victor: That is really nice to know. My goodness.

Ashland: Thank you.

Victor: Now I have some news of my own to share with you. I have decided that newman media will no longer compete for the acquisition of chanccomm. I want chanccomm to belong to newman/locke. Return to its fold, as it were.

Victoria: That is very good news.

Victor: [ Sighs ] Nyquil severe gives you powerful relief

Mariah: Look at you.

Tessa: What?

Mariah: You’re beaming. I can tell that you feel really good about the photo shoot and what noah’s gonna do with the album cover.

Tessa: Yeah, I really do. Noah’s got such a creative eye. I mean, I can’t wait to see what he comes up with.

Mariah: Me too.

Tessa: I saw, um, you and sharon at the coffee house. Seems like you were having a pretty intense conversation. Is there anything you want to share about it?

Mariah: Well, as you can probably tell, I have been feeling a bit in limbo. And, you know, chance coming back and then the party, I was really wondering if I had made the right call by not going, and I really wanted to be there for abby and chance, I did, but I also didn’t want my issues to be a distraction. So that’s what I was talking to my mom about. And it was a great conversation, and afterward, I felt really good about deciding not to go.

Tessa: Well…I mean, you know you could’ve come to me.

Mariah: I just feel like that is all that I have been talking about. Things with the baby and… I just realized there is so much going on for you right now, with your career and the album, and

that should be my focus.

Tessa: Hey, nothing is more important to me than you.

Mariah: I know. I saw you and noah, you know, doing your thing.

Tessa: Why didn’t you join us?

Mariah: I didn’t want to interrupt, especially when i heard all the wonderful things you were saying about me, about us, and what I mean to you and how much you love me.

Tessa: I meant every word. I love you.

Mariah: You stop that right now or I’m gonna start crying again.

Tessa: I love you so much.

[ Laughs ]

Victoria: Is adam on board with this?

Victor: Well, let me put it this way. He has no choice but to go along with my decision.

Victoria: Well, what makes you think that he’s going to accept it? He might put in a bid without you.

Victor: He doesn’t have the financial wherewithal to make a bid on his own, okay? So I don’t give a damn what he thinks.

Adam: The financial package that I’m putting together is for a potentially lucrative deal. Right, but what I’m offering is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor and a substantial return on your investment. Well, I hope that you will reconsider and get back to me. I guarantee you will not regret it. And will support you no matter what.

Phyllis: Hey! I feel like we just parted ways, and now here you are. I’m not insinuating you’re here to — I don’t know why you’re here, right? How would I know? Welcome to the grand — hey!

Billy: Thanks for coming to meet me.

Jack: Yeah, it sounded important.

Billy: Sorry to interrupt.

Phyllis: No problem.

Jack: So what’s going on?

Billy: Well, I woke up with a great idea, and I need you to help me execute it.

Jack: Okay.

Billy: I would like you to join me and buy chanccomm from my mother.

Sharon: Do you have a busy day planned?

Rey: I’m wrapping up a case, and I’m off to see chance. What about you? You gonna be here all day?

Sharon: Yeah. Um, well, it’s a little slow, though. If it stays this way, I might pop back at home and grab a book. What was the name of that murder mystery novel you liked so much?

Rey: You want to read that? When I told you about it, it seemed a little graphic for your taste.

Sharon: Maybe, but I think I’ll just give it a try. You made it sound so good.

Rey: Yeah, but I already told you whodunit. I spoiled the ending.

Sharon: Oh, yeah. Yeah, I forgot about that.

Rey: Yeah? You forgot about the crooked mayor with the eye patch? What’s going on?

Sharon: Nothing.

Rey: No, no, you might as well fess up because when I set my mind on getting to the truth, I can be pretty tireless in my questioning.

Sharon: The downside of being married to a detective. Fine!

[ Sighs ] I needed a little guidance with getting you a christmas gift, and I was thinking of buying you the rest of the series by that author. You know, you may be a great husband, but you’re impossible to buy a gift for.

Rey: I don’t need gifts. All I need is you.

Abby: Dom is all fed and now we can laze around like a normal married couple.

Chance: I love it.

Abby: [ Chuckles ] I am so happy that we left that party early last night because you just got home, and I don’t want to share you with anybody.

Chance: Oh, gosh, I feel the same way.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Chance: Hey, did you get new throw pillows?

Abby: I did, yep, yep. I wasn’t a fan of the old ones, and apparently dominic wasn’t either, because he spit up all over them.

[ Chuckles ] Hey, he’s got good taste. We might have an interior designer on our hands.

Chance: I’m sorry I missed that.

Abby: There will be plenty more spit-up to come.

Chance: Yeah, yeah, I know. It’s just, you know, I look around and I see little things that remind me of the moments that I missed. I don’t know, it just makes me feel sad and guilty.

Abby: Hey. Don’t do that to yourself. All that matters is that you’re home and we’re safe. There are plenty more precious moments.

Chance: You got that right.

[ Chuckles ]

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Sharon: I appreciate your kind words about not needing anything. However, I am going to get you a christmas gift. The problem is, I have no idea where to start.

Rey: Oh, come on, sharon, I’m not that hard to shop for.

Sharon: What? Are you kidding? I have bought you like three shirts that still have the tags on them because you’ve never worn them. And I just want to get you something that you really like and appreciate.

Rey: Well, what about a couple of plane tickets to the beach? We could get away, just the two of us.

Sharon: Good idea. Very bad timing. Your partner just came back.

Rey: True. Okay. Rain check on the beach.

Sharon: See? You’re harder to buy for than you realize, and if you don’t give me any guidance, you’re gonna end up with a lump of coal under the tree.

Rey: Oh, really? No, I just — I just keep thinking about last year. You already gave me the perfect gift — you in that gorgeous dress, walking down that aisle.

Sharon: Well, I think I got the perfect gift, but you’re right, we cannot top last year because we’re not going to get married again. But still, I want to try.

Adam: Look, I’m not asking you to go full-on mata hari, okay? I’m just requesting, since you have developed some sort of rapport with billy, that if you notice any strange or concerning behavior, you could casually share it with me. No pressure. It’s not an assignment.

Sally: Oh, good, ’cause my business is in fashion and not gossip, and, yes, there is a difference. Usually.

Adam: Okay. Didn’t mean to offend you. Sometimes it’s hard to tell.

Sally: Despite your continued reassurances that this is not gonna negatively affect newman media or my career, i can’t help but feeling on edge about it, ’cause just when i thought things were dying down between the two of you, now you want more intel on billy?

Adam: It’s not any kind of corporate espionage. It couldn’t be because billy is not involved in a corporate entity anymore.

Sally: Yeah, that’s right. You bested him. So what’s with your continued interest? I need to know your motives for this to make sense.

Adam: Maybe I’m asking out of genuine concern.

Sally: Right.

Adam: Look, it was not my intention to push billy over the edge. I’m not that vicious. That would be crossing a line that I don’t want to cross.

Billy: So, my mother has decided to put chanccomm up for sale — best bid wins — and I’m hoping that my personal connection to her will help me get a family discount.

Jack: Okay, okay, okay. Slow down. I have read that the division is on the market, but why would we want to buy chanccomm if it’s facing a major lawsuit from ashland locke?

Billy: Locke’s lawsuit is based on a lie. I still believe that there’s evidence out there to prove that he is a criminal, okay? And I would like the opportunity to dig in and to fight.

Jack: Okay, I think that there’s more to this than you’ve said to this point, so spill the rest.

Billy: Well, you’d also get a big win over victor. Something that you’ve been looking for for a very long time. Look, the way adam and victor treated me, I really don’t want to give them the company that they desperately want.

Jack: And there it is.

Billy: Jack.

[ Sighs ] I’m asking for your help one last time. This is my only shot to get myself out of this mess. Please don’t let me down. Nyquil severe gives you powerful relief

Chance: Oh, I love it.

Abby: Is there anything special you want to do today?

Chance: Oh, I just want to spend the day with you.

Abby: Okay.

[ Chuckles ]

[ Cellphone rings ]

Chance: Oh, hold on. Oh, it’s my mom.

Abby: Aww.

Chance: Hey, mom.

Nina: Hi! How’s my boy?

Chance: Oh, we are so good. I’m so good.

Nina: Are you really? Because I’m having a hard time believing that this is all real. I mean, I know I saw your face when you first called me to tell me that you were alive, but when I woke up this morning, I had to remind myself that this isn’t all a dream.

Chance: [ Chuckles ] Well, I hope talking to me convinces you.

Nina: Oh, it’s so good to see you alive and breathing. Are you eating okay? You look like you might’ve lost some weight. How’s your leg injury?

Chance: Mom, mom, I am fine. Abby’s taking great care of me. Having her and dom by my side, it’s just done wonders already.

Nina: Oh, I’m so glad. I can’t wait to get back to genoa city to see you with your son. I wish it could be today, but i promise it’ll be soon.

Chance: Well, I’m not going anywhere.

Nina: Yeah, I’ve heard that before.

Chance: [ Chuckles ]

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Chance: Well, this time i mean it.

Jack: Billy, I’m gonna have to say no.

Billy: Why?

Jack: Because I think buying chanccomm is a bad idea.

Billy: But you were willing to invest when lily and I before we went after cyaxares. What’s the difference?

Jack: There are plenty of differences. Originally, I was willing to invest in you because I thought it’s what you needed in your life at the time.

Billy: Everything was fine before we went after cyaxares. Business was great, and lily and I were in a happy, healthy relationship.

Jack: But you couldn’t keep that going.

Billy: That’s actually not true, jack. Lily and I are still in a happy, healthy relationship, and business was doing fantastic before adam and victor set their trap.

Jack: A trap you walked right into, billy.

Billy: I don’t know what you want me to say to that.

Jack: There’s nothing to say. Actions speak louder than words. I’ve been here before. Billy, I am not going to enable your latest addiction.

Billy: Addiction? To what?

Jack: To power, to vengeance, to the latest ultimate gamble.

Billy: Well, that’s a crazy way to look at this. You know, you’re just taking everything and twisting it into some narrative you have about me. I mean, jack, I couldn’t put a quarter in a vending machine without people saying I’m gambling on whether the soda’s gonna come out or not. Everything I do is either addiction-based or obsessive. The truth is, all I was doing was my job — looking for a story. And what I found was the truth.

Jack: Which you exploited to your own advantage. Until adam and victor turned the table on you. Look, it’s over. Let it go.

Billy: Yeah, that’s clearly easy for you to say.

Jack: Billy, I want nothing more than your happiness and your success, but not this way.

Billy: I mean, I can’t count on you for anything, can I?

Jack: Don’t say that. Come on, back up and listen to yourself. Listen to how desperate you sound. This is not rational business discussion. After what you did at victoria’s wedding, I don’t think going after chanccomm is the right path for you. There are too many temptations, too many possible triggers. There’s got to be other options for you. Have you thought about those? Because jill made it very clear she’s handing over control of chancellor industries to lily.

Billy: Yeah, that is true, but it doesn’t mean chanccomm’s got to go with it.

Jack: Okay, you can always come back to jabot. The door is always open for you there. But whatever you decide, there has to be balance in your life. You have to give up this need to hurt adam.

Billy: [ Chuckles ] That’s not what this is about. This is actually a good opportunity for you.

Jack: Billy, I’ve made my decision. I’m not gonna change my mind.

Phyllis: Hey. Are you okay?

Jack: It was a difficult conversation.

Phyllis: Oh, I bet I know what it is. I was talking to billy the other day and he was saying that jill and lily were discussing the fate of chanccomm. So, really, it’s for sale after one lawsuit?

Jack: I think jill’s trying to make a point. Billy has his priorities confused again.

Rey: Well, I’m guessing none of this turned out the way you hoped it would.

Billy: I got played. I walked into a trap I should’ve seen coming a mile away.

Rey: A trap?

Billy: Relax, rey. I don’t think it concerns you. And no matter what adam says about me blackmailing him, he simply misread the situation.

[ Sighs ] And he’s not the only one to do that. Biggest question I have right now — is it too early for a bloody mary? And I can get you one?

Rey: No. I’ll pass.

Billy: Are you on duty? Don’t tell me you’re here to make my day even worse.

New vicks convenience pack.

Esther: Hi, sharon.

Sharon: Esther, I haven’t seen you in a while.

Esther: Well, bella and miles have been keeping me busy. Oh, not that I’m complaining. I love spending time with my grandkids.

Sharon: I’m sure.

Esther: You know, we live under the same roof, and I take care of them every day while chloe and kevin are at work. You’d think it would be easy for me to find a perfect christmas gift for them.

Sharon: Well, judging by all of those bags, I think you did a good job.

Esther: I practically bought out the entire toy store because I couldn’t figure out what they’d like. I’m still not sure I got it right.

Sharon: Well, you’re making me feel better because I’m having the same problem with rey. I mean, I know everything about this man, and he is so difficult to shop for. You know, this is probably a long shot, but kevin works at the police station. Does he ever talk about his job? Maybe he said something about rey that could point me in the right direction.

Esther: Hmm. The only thing I remember kevin saying recently is that rey was happy that chance made it home safely.

Sharon: Well, we all are. It might be the best christmas gift any of us gets this year.

Sally: So you’re saying that you suddenly have empathy for billy?

Adam: Billy has far more reason to hate me than I do to hate him.

Sally: Yeah, I suppose that’s true, but in our last conversation, you told me not to feel too badly for him.

Adam: That was — it was just my reflexive response every time that I hear his name. But I’d like to believe that I’ve become a more evolved being. And I think I went too far. Yes, my father and I, we like to say that this is all purely business, but it’s impossible to deny that it’s personal, maybe too personal. I mean, after all, he is the father of my niece and nephew.

Sally: Okay, well, I’m not gonna call you cold or vicious, but you did warn me that things might get ugly between you and billy, and now…you’re expressing regret.

Adam: The concept is not completely foreign to me. I don’t want this battle to get any worse any more than you do. And you’re right, we could get hurt in the process.

Sally: So then why’d you go after him so hard to begin with?

Adam: Because I thought if i could shut him down and stop him from any kind of retaliation, it would end the war between us. At least for now. Because…I don’t think billy could take another loss like that.

Billy: I thought I was very clear, okay? There was no blackmail, no matter what victor and adam say. They are the guilty ones here. They — they — they hacked into chanccomm’s server to exert leverage over me, okay? I’m the one that should be pressing charges on them.

Rey: You done?

Billy: Yeah, I am.

Rey: I’m not arresting you.

Billy: [ Sighs ] Okay, good. I like to hear that. At least maybe something’s going my way for once.

Rey: The da didn’t think there was enough of a case to bring it to court.

Billy: Remind me to buy michael a bloody mary, then.

Rey: In the meantime, billy, let me give you some advice. Bending the law to get what you want never works out the way you hoped it would.

Billy: Did you tell the newmans that? Look, I think we can both agree right now we would like to table this discussion forever.

Rey: Done. And for whatever it’s worth, i hope I never have to slap cuffs on you again.

Billy: I appreciate that. But adam — different story, right?

Phyllis: Yeah, I mean, there’s no doubt that billy has to get his priorities straight. You know, I’m not judging — I’m not judging because sometimes, you know, I’ve been the same way. You know? But — but that’s how you learn in life. You have to learn from your mistakes, you know? And…sometimes, you know, priorities, they’ll shift.

Jack: Uh-huh.

Phyllis: You know, but — but — but not — not always. Sometimes they do stay the same. Do you know what I mean? Like with me, with me, if I have a friend, they will always be my friend and I will always have their back, and I will be loyal to the end.

Jack: Is everything alright with you?

Phyllis: Yeah, yeah. Why?

Jack: I don’t know, you seem a little off, and it’s perfectly understandable. You’ve been through an awful lot lately. I guess — I guess we both have. Is there maybe somewhere we could talk with a little privacy here?

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Sally: So let’s just say i happen to run into billy again. What kind of info would be helpful for you to squash this battle between you both?

Adam: You know what? Just forget I asked.

Sally: Okay, I don’t get it. Now you’re doing a complete 180?

Adam: Well, I just — i shouldn’t drag you into this.

Sally: Why not? You suddenly don’t trust me?

Adam: [ Sighs ] You were right to be wary from the beginning. We have no control over whether billy is self-destructing. Why should we interject ourselves in that? It’s the guy’s human nature. He has lily. He’s got family and friends that can help him with whatever’s going on. Let’s just hope he doesn’t drag too many people down with him.

Lily: Hey. You will not believe the conversation I just overheard.

Billy: Good or bad?

Lily: Well, guess. It was between adam and sally.

Billy: Adam finding new ways to trash me?

Lily: No, actually, it was the opposite.

Billy: Sally’s trashing me now.

Lily: No, he basically was telling her some lie about how he’s concerned for your welfare.

Billy: Like a hyena would be concerned about the animal it’s picking at for dinner.

Lily: Right, and then he asked her to spy on you.

Billy: Now, that makes more sense.

Lily: Yeah, I mean, I guess she filled him in on some conversation she had with you earlier.

Billy: As I thought she would.

Lily: So what exactly did you say to her?

Billy: I fed her a few appetizers, and she did exactly what I expected her to do. She went blabbing to her new go-to guy, and clearly adam wants more information, which means my plan is gonna work.

Sharon: Rey is going to visit chance today.

Esther: Oh, that’s wonderful. I thought about dropping by, but then I heard jill was in town. It’s one of the things I don’t miss about the chancellor mansion.

Sharon: Well, I’m sure chance would love to see you.

Esther: I remember when he was a tiny, little baby. I can’t believe that he has a son of his own now.

Sharon: Time flies.

Esther: When we thought that chance was dead, my heart broke for that little boy. I couldn’t believe that he’d be growing up without his daddy. Thank god that chance is alright.

Sharon: Well, I hope he really is okay and that he won’t have any lingering effects from everything he’s been through.

Esther: I didn’t realize that he was injured.

Sharon: Oh, well, from what I’ve heard, he’s made a full recovery physically. I’m just concerned about, you know, his emotional state. He’s been through a pretty traumatic experience.

Esther: Well, he has abby to lean on.

Sharon: I’m sure she’ll do everything she can for him. Just so much has changed since he left, you know? A year ago, he was a newlywed, and then he spent all this time away from his wife and now he’s suddenly a father. That’s — that’s got to be a huge adjustment.

Chance: I could totally get addicted to this app. Everything he does — every little coo and gurgle, it’s — it’s amazing.

Abby: Tell me about it. Try downloading it on your phone, you’ll never get anything done.

Chance: Well, what are we doing? Come on, let’s do it now.

[ Knock on door ]

Abby: I’ll get it. Rey.

Rey: Hey, abby. I wanted to —

Abby: Yeah, come inside.

Rey: Yeah.

Chance: Hey, man.

Rey: “Hey, man”? That’s it? I’m your partner. I thought you were dead. Oh.

Chance: I’m sorry, brother. I — I just don’t know the right words for this moment right now. It’s good to see you, man, really. It’s good to see you.

Rey: Yeah. Trust me, the feeling’s mutual. From what I heard, it’s a miracle that you’re alive.

Chance: Yeah, yeah, I got lucky.

Rey: Well, the chief wanted me to tell you that you’re welcome back to the station, whenever you’re ready. You’ve been through hell, so there’s no rush, but everyone down there misses you and can’t wait to see you.

Chance: I appreciate that, man. Thank you.

Abby: Well, obviously, it’s up to chance, but you were injured. He needs to rest and recover, so I agree with paul, you know? I — selfishly, I would like to spend some more time with you before you join the force.

Rey: Absolutely. No one’s pushing.

Chance: Good. ‘Cause I definitely need some time with abby and our new son.

Phyllis: And this doorknob, this one is sticking. You know what? I’m gonna replace all the hardware in this entire hotel to really high-end hardware. Like the doorknobs, this, the knobs on the dresser — all of it. I mean, you could really tell when something’s high end. You can really feel it. You don’t know it, but you can feel it.

Jack: Well, you are really all over the place.

Phyllis: What?

Jack: Well, I didn’t ask for privacy so I could get a lowdown on hotel renovations. Don’t get me wrong, you could read the phone book and make it entertaining, but you seem anxious. You seem jittery, like nervous for some reason.

Phyllis: Nervous? What — what do you mean?

Jack: Well, I don’t know why you would be. You’re — it’s not normal for you.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] It’s dumb.

Jack: And I have a feeling it’s my fault.

Phyllis: No! No, it’s not your fault. It’s me. It’s me.

Jack: I am not gonna let you take that on. From the moment I told you i still loved you, something shifted. Phyllis, since your break-up with nick, there has been this confusion between us, underneath the surface, but you know it’s there and I know it’s there, and I want to say, again, I am sorry.

Phyllis: You don’t need to be sorry for anything, jack. Please don’t do that. You have been so kind and generous and giving, and supporting me during my break-up with nick. And not only that, I mean, you were rooting for the two of us.

[ Chuckles ] To get back together. You’re that amazing. And then that over-the-top gesture at thanksgiving, I mean, honestly, my thanksgiving was going to be abysmal, and…

[ Sighs ] …You helped me. I mean, you — you single-handedly came to my rescue.

Jack: So my confessing my love for you didn’t change anything?

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] I don’t know. Maybe it did. It’s life, you know? Things change. And it’s all cause and effect, anD… I just think our friendship — I think it’s stronger than ever, and if I have anything to do with it, it’s gonna stay that way. Clerk: Hello, how can I?

Chance: [ Chuckles ] I want to know everything. I want to know every little coo, every little gurgle he makes. You got to catch me up, please.

Abby: Mm, well, that’ll take some time.

[ Chuckles ]

Chance: We got all the time in the world, right?

Abby: Okay, where should i start?

Chance: How about the first day you brought him home?

Abby: Okay. Um…well, I was nervous. Terrified, actually.

Chance: [ Chuckles ]

Abby: I had no idea how to feed a baby or get a baby to go to sleep or swaddle one. Oh, my gosh, and [Chuckles] The first few times, every time i would try to swaddle him, he would, like, push his arm out or his leg out.

[ Chuckles ] And I know it’s probably not possible because he was so tiny, but it’s like he was smiling at me. Like he was playing a game. And it put me at ease, like we were in this together.

Chance: Because you were. Now we are.

Abby: Yeah. You know, I don’t know why this slipped my mind, but I can do better than just tell you about our baby’s journey. I can show you. Be right back.

Sharon: Hey, you’re back.

Rey: Mm-hmm. Yeah, I found myself with a few free moments, and I thought I’d steal some with my wife.

Sharon: I’ll take it. How was chance?

Rey: You know, physically, he seems to be healthy enough and he seems to be recovering well, but I don’t know when he’s gonna be coming back to the force.

Sharon: Well, it can take some time to come back from what chance has been through. It’s not easy. I’ve seen it with mariah after the ordeal she went through with stitch. And I understand the situations aren’t the same, but I’ve seen mariah struggle with trying to get back to her regular life, and maybe chance will need some time before he can wrap his head around getting back to normal, too.

Rey: Yeah, I’m sure you’re right. I just…wish I knew a way how to help my friend, you know?

Sharon: Well, you’ll figure it out. Sometimes just spending time with friends and family can do wonders to heal people. And that’s what we can do for mariah and chance.

Abby: This video journal, it wasn’t just a gift for you. But it helped me feel close to you. There’d be days where I’d have whole conversations by myself.

[ Chuckles ] But it would feel like you were listening to me.

Chance: I know exactly what you mean. There were so many days while i was gone that I could — could hear your voice in my head.

Abby: Well, now you’ll know what I was saying to you for real.

Chance: I can’t wait.

Abby: Hey, baby. It’s me. I wish you were here. God, that sounds like a postcard. But, uh, I mean it in the deepest, most profound way. Our son is about to arrive, and I need you home with me. I hate that I can’t talk to you, that I don’t know where you are, if you’re safe. I hate that I have to do this all alone. You know what? Maybe we should just go to the next recording.

Chance: No. I want to watch it. I want to know everything you experienced. Please.

Abby: I am so confused why you haven’t come home yet, and it scares me that I haven’t heard from you in a while. Our son needs his daddy. I need you. I need my husband. Sorry. Um…you know what? I’m gonna go, but I will, uh, check in on you later. I love you.

[ Sighs ] Look, I’m — I just didn’t remember what was in a lot of those videos. I’m sorry you had to hear that.

Chance: Hey. You have absolutely nothing to apologize for. I’m glad I saw that. Abby, I’m learning how much pain that I cause you, and I promise you — I promise you — I will find a way to make it up to you.

Dominic: [ Crying ]

Abby: Oh, I —

Chance: Hey. Let me go. I got to learn how to do this, right?

Abby: [ Sighs ] Go get him, daddy.

[ Sighs ]

Billy: Thank you for spying on my spy. It’s very helpful.

Lily: Well, I wasn’t trying to be a spy. I just happened to overhear their conversation.

Billy: I’m not asking you to be. I am not adam. What I am gonna ask you to do is put today out of your mind. This is not your fight, okay? What you saw today was adam primed for a fall. And I’m gonna hand it to him.

Lily: Look, I have no problem with your plan working. I’m actually concerned it might work too well.

Billy: What do you mean by that?

Lily: This could have lasting effects on you. I mean, there’s huge risks involved here.

Billy: I understand that, but these are risks that I am willing to take, and I hope that you can trust me on this.

Lily: Yeah, I want to, but you have to understand where I’m coming from.

Billy: I do, lily. Look [Sighs] It’s not like i haven’t looked at other options, right? I went to jill, and that’s a dead end. I talked to jack this morning, asking him to buy chanccomm, and my own brother turned me down. I’m running out of time.

Lily: Why do you think that?

Billy: Because if adam is trying to recruit sally, that means the newmans are not resting on their laurels. Taking down chanccomm wasn’t enough. Adam still has a plan, and he and victor are not gonna stop until I am broken. I need to do this to defend myself. And I’m gonna do my best to keep you out of this, but I would really like to know that I have your support. Can you back me here? Like pulsing, electric shocks,

Jack: I absolutely agree with you about our friendship.

Phyllis: Good. Good. Oh, I feel better. Uh, we’re very good at talking things out. Here, have a seat.

Jack: We’re good at talking things out because we’ve been through so much. So let’s talk. I don’t want to mess this up. I think what we have is rare. Who would think that we could maintain this kind of a friendship after the hell we put each other through over so many years?

Phyllis: Yeah, I mean, I — I put you through hell.

Jack: No, no, no, I’m not putting blame on anyone. I’m — I’m just saying I think we need to establish some firm and clear boundaries.

Phyllis: What — such as?

Jack: Despite all of the things I said about the feelings I have for you — have had for you for many years — it doesn’t mean I think we should try again. Look, it’s been my experience that what the heart wants and what reality will provide are two very different th– I’m gonna say it, and I need you to listen. I am not about to try to rekindle things if it means glossing over the pain from our past. Even if that were possible, i cannot afford to make that mistake again. Ever. It took a lot for me to put my heart back together. I’m not gonna put myself in a position where it gets broken again. I could not handle that.

Sally: Okay, this conversation has been a bit of a roller coast, and I am not sure what is actually going on between you and billy, but from what I’ve heard, he does tend to drag things down with him and i don’t want to be one of them. I’ve worked incredibly hard to get my career back on track, and I feel like it finally is. I don’t want it to take another hit.

Adam: Well, then my advice to you is to do what you do best. Design, critique, curate. You’re right, that is your job. So focus on that and don’t let billy’s potential stunts distract you. Let’s just pretend we never had this conversation.

Sally: [ Scoffs ]

Lily: Listen, I know that we’re in the right here. Okay? I know that adam and victor have pulled some shady maneuvers to come after chanccomm, including having ashland getting away with his crimes. I just — I know how dangerous adam can be. I don’t know how far he would go to hurt you. So even though I have some misgivings about, you know, what you want to do…I believe in you. And I love you.

Billy: I can’t ask you for anything more than that.

Victor: However, entrusting you with an infant, I mean, you’re gonna have to change diapers, perhaps, you know?

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Victor: I mean, this is putting a lot of responsibility on you.

Devon: No, I understand. I do, and I assure you that I’m up for it.

Victor: Yeah?

Devon: I really am. I am more than happy to take care of Dominic while Abby takes care of herself. And she’s left me with everything that I could need, and she’s having the nanny come, so we’re okay.

Victor: Well, as I said — but what?

Devon: But it’s Abby taking off like she has without telling anybody, it’s — I’m worried.

Adam: Well, welcome back.

Ashland: Thank you.

Adam: You look energized. Hope that glow isn’t all about besting Billy. I hope there was some good news with your trip to the clinic in Peru.

Ashland: I was put on an experimental protocol, and I’ve already received a full regimen of the treatment.

Adam: Well, I am glad to hear that. I’m sure Victoria’s relieved, as well.

Ashland: Yes, we’re both feeling very positive. I’m actually happier for her than I am for myself. You’ll never get her to admit it, but this illness has taken quite a toll on her.

Adam: I’m sure it has. Well, my sister’s obviously very much in love.

Ashland: That makes two of us. I’ve been keeping up on everything going on around here, and it looks like it’s all on track.

Lauren: Here you go. One extra-hot triple-shot mocha with a dash of cinnamon, just the way you like it.

Michael: [ Laughs ] What did I do to deserve this?

Lauren: So many things. But let’s start with the superb job you did of grilling that defense witness yesterday. I’m just so glad I got to see you in court. I just wish they had been videotaping it because it was truly a master class in cross-examination. My love, you are an artiste.

Michael: Thank you for that high praise. I have to admit, it — it really does wonders for my mojo knowing that my biggest fan is sitting in the gallery.

Nick: So, what looks good to you?

Phyllis: Um…the huevos rancheros or blueberry pancakes.

Nick: Strong. I am definitely gonna go with —

Phyllis: The spinach, mushroom, Swiss omelet, get rid of the toast, substitute it with a fruit cup, and a side of habanero salsa.

Nick: How’d you know that?

Phyllis: ‘Cause I know you. You know, you’re a creature of habit. You only order two things on this menu. The other day, you had the bacon waffle. I know all your habits.

Nick: Yeah, I do only order those two things. Guilty as charged.

Phyllis: This isn’t gonna work.

Nick: What?

Phyllis: “What?” This. You know, us being pals and buddies. I don’t think we can get past this tension
