Billy: I won’t, I won’T. How’d it go with all the other last-minute shoppers out there?

Lily: It was good. I was laser-focused. I went in and got my stuff and came right back out.

Billy: Anything fancy in here for me?

Lily: No, stop. Maybe, if you’ve been good.

Billy: I’ve been exceptional lately.

Lily: And very busy. What’s with all the mistletoe?

Billy: I didn’t want to, you know, take my chances.

Lily: Well, when have I ever turned down a kiss from you?

Billy: I’m hedging my bets.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: How’d I do? Was it worthwhile?

Lily: Definitely.

Nikki: Oh, I love this time of year. The chill in the air, the music, and catching up with loved ones without one mentions of business tonight or all day tomorrow.

Victor: Well, not even one word?

Nikki: Ideally. Consider it a gift to me.

Victor: Well, I’ll try my best.

Nikki: [ Chuckles ] Most of the preparations are taken care of, but I still have so much to do.

Victor: As do I.

Noah: Hey. Thought I’d drop in and say hi before heading home.

Victor: Noah! Don’t head home, don’t head home. As a matter of fact, I can use you. You will be my right-hand man, okay?

Nick: [ Sighs ] Yo.

Sharon: Hey. So what’s the game plan for christmas day?

Nick: Oh, let’s see. Christian is gonna wake up sometime around the crack of dawn. He’s gonna run into my room and jump on my bed and wake me up from a very deep sleep, which i have, you know, earned because i was up all night wrapping presents.

Sharon: Because you had to procrastinate.

Nick: Naturally. After I get fully awake, then we’ll go out and check and see that santa ate all of his cookies and gave out the carrots to rudolph and the rest of the gang. Then we’ll open up some presents and play with every single toy he gets.

Sharon: Wow. I’m exhausted already.

Nick: Then we’ll get dressed and then go to my mom and dad’s, and he will open up even more presents and we’ll hang out for a little bit and then come over to your place and hang out for the rest of the day.

Sharon: It all goes by too fast, doesn’t it?

Nick: Yeah, but we’re gonna make memories that will last a lifetime. Can I bring anything for this incredible christmas feast I’ve been promised?

Sharon: No, just bring yourselves. Rey and I have it all under control.

Nick: You sure? I mean, that’s a lot of people to feed, especially the way noah’s eating these days.

Sharon: Yeah, we have taken that into consideration. Um…you know what? I can’t remember the last time that we were all together on christmas.

Nick: Eh, it’s gonna be noisy and messy.

Sharon: Well, I can’t wait. And everybody’s looking forward to this. Noah, faith, mariah.

Nick: How’s mariah doing?

Sharon: I spoke to her earlier today. She sounds great. I think that she and tessa are finally in a good place again.

Nick: I’m so glad. You think about the last few months those two have had.

Sharon: Yeah. Well, I can’t really describe it, but she just seemed lighter, like truly happy instead of trying to sound happy.

Nick: Well, it sounds like she’s gonna have a great christmas.

Sharon: We all are.

Nick: I hope. I mean, you know, we should.

Sharon: Mm-kay, spit it out. Something’s bothering you?

Nick: Did I say that?

Sharon: No, but you didn’t have to. And I think I know exactly what it is.

Victoria: Oh. I wasn’t expecting you this early.

Ashland: I’m actually a few minutes late.

Victoria: Oh, gosh. I’ve been so busy, I guess i just lost track of time.

Ashland: Well, it is time to clock out and celebrate. Enjoy the lights, the music, and a wee bit of holiday cheer.

Victoria: I really — I wish I could, but I just can’T.

Adam: Come on in. I know you want to.

Sally: It’s christmas eve. You shouldn’t be here.

Adam: Uh, well, that makes two of us.

Sally: Yeah, but I am not the one with tons of family waiting for me to show up and sing carols and make cookies or whatever it is that people with families do. I am soup for one and solitaire, with nothing but time to kill until the holidays are over.

Adam: Wow.

Sally: What?

Adam: Was that your attempt to snag an invitation to deck the halls?

Connor: You’re not really good at this.

[ Both laugh ]

Chelsea: You’re right, I’m not. But you are very good at wrapping gifts.

Connor: Think dad’s gonna like it?

Chelsea: No, no, I think he’s gonna love it.

Connor: [ Chuckles ] What are you giving him?

Chelsea: Can you keep a secret?

Connor: Sure.

Chelsea: I got your dad two gifts this year, but I’m not sure which one I’m gonna give him. First one’s over there.

Connor: What’s inside?

Chelsea: It’s a jacket i thought would look good on him.

Connor: What’s gift number two?

Chelsea: Right over there.

Connor: That picture? I thought you bought that for yourself, for here.

Chelsea: Well, if I don’t give it to him, I’ll give it to myself as a gift.

Connor: Why’d you pick it?

Chelsea: You don’t like it?

Connor: Mm, it’s pretty, i guess. It just doesn’t seem like the best match for him.

Chelsea: Once he sees it, he’ll understand, if — if this is the gift I decide to give him.

Connor: If you say so. I’ll get ready to go.

[ Chuckles ]

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] It used to match us both perfectly. Wow. This place is amazing. Where are we?

Adam: Home. I bought it for us. I wanted to surprise you with it.

Chelsea: And it’s really ours?

Adam: Mm-hmm. I hope you like it.

Chelsea: Like it? Oh, adam. Never, ever in my wildest dreams.

Victoria: No, what I meant is I’m not really ready to leave this minute, but I’ll be ready…

Victoria: Well, eventually.

Victoria: I just have a few details that I need to handle.

Ashland: You know, I can’t tell you how many holidays and birthdays I sat out because there was so much work to be done.

Victoria: Well, then, so you get it.

Ashland: Well, I’m looking at things and life much differently these days.

Victoria: So am I. My life is so much better because of you. But I do have some loose ends that I need to tie up.

Ashland: Are you toiling over the locke side of newman/locke affairs?

Victoria: Yes, I am.

Ashland: I just happen to be well versed in those issues. Perhaps [Clears throat] We can get out of here tout suite if we put our heads together. What do you say?

Victoria: I say that I am so lucky to be married to such a brilliant man.

Ashland: I always thought i was the lucky one.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ]

Ashland: You know, you keep that up, we’ll never get finished.

Victor: Now, I finished the christmas shopping, but I could use a helping hand with all the presents I got for connor, you know?

Nikki: Chelsea’s bringing him over in a little while, and victor’s gonna take him riding.

Victor: Well, I’d love his presents wrapped before he gets here.

Noah: Grandma, isn’t that a little bit more your speed? My lack of gift-wrapping skills is almost legendary.

Victor: Oh, he won’t know the difference. Are you kidding?

Noah: Alright, what are we talking here, stacks of toys and video games?

Victor: No, no, no, no, no. You know what he expressed he wanted? Hockey gear.

Nikki: So, of course, your grandfather went right out and bought every possible piece of hockey gear known to man.

Noah: Well, as someone who has been the recipient of your generous nature for many, many christmases, connor’s gonna be stoked. I’m in.

Victor: Alright, it’s a deal.

Sharon: Here I am, going on and on about how everyone’s gonna be together for the holidays, but a part of your family is very far away. Summer. She’s all the way in milan, and I know you must miss her like crazy.

Nick: Yeah, of course I do, but, you know, I also know she’s really happy there with harrison and kyle. I also know any time I want to see her, I just have to hop on a plane and go.

Sharon: Still, you must be thinking about how different things were last christmas, when you and phyllis were still together.

Nick: Definitely having some bittersweet feelings about that. But I’m working through it.

Sharon: Okay. Well, what’s bringing you down? I mean, you don’t have to talk about it, you know, if you don’t want to, but I think it will make you feel better.

Nick: You mean it’ll make you feel better.

Sharon: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: [ Sighs ] Okay. It’s not like anything specific or anyone in particular. Um…you know I’ve been going through a lot. My breakup with phyllis and fighting with my dad and victoria. And…it’s just got me asking a lot of questions about my place and purpose.

Billy: Did you talk to charlie and mattie?

Lily: Yeah, we had a video chat earlier, and they’re gonna call me tomorrow from the beach.

Billy: Mm. Christmas in hawaii — that’s living the life right there.

Lily: I know. I’m so happy for them. I’m glad they’re spending time with their dad and sam, even though I miss them. Speaking of kids, where is johnny and katie? I thought they were gonna be here.

Billy: They were, then one of the kids from school decided to have a little christmas eve playdate thing, so they’re over there hanging out for a little while.

Lily: Very smart. That way they’ll be exhausted and go to bed at a decent hour.

Billy: Bingo.

Lily: Genius.

Billy: We had a blast, though. You know, we put on some christmas carols, we decorated the place. Look at those gingerbread houses right there.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: Did a fantastic job. It was great.

Lily: Aww.

Billy: We had a good time.

Lily: Sounds fun.

Billy: Yeah. And it was nice for me, too, to put everything else aside and just focus on them, you know, have some quality time with them because, after the holiday, they’re going to boarding school.

Lily: I know. That’s why operation “billy pretends to implode” is on hold.

Billy: Well, yes, and that’s not the only reason. You know, you deserve your fair share of attention on christmas eve, as well.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Well, actually, since we’re here and we’re alone, there is something that I want to do with you.

Billy: Oh, yeah?

Chelsea: Hello!

Connor: Hello?

Chelsea: Hi! Merry christmas eve.

Victor: Come here, boy.

Connor: Hey, grandpa.

Victor: Hey. How nice to see you. Well, you’re dressed, look at that.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Victor: Cold outside.

Connor: Hi, noah.

Noah: Hey, bud. You working on your ninja skills? I didn’t even hear you come in.

Chelsea: Oh, I hope it wasn’t a bad time.

Victor: No, no, no, no. Why don’t you go down to the stables? I’ll be there before you know it.

Connor: Are you trying to hide something?

Noah: That depends. Are we doing a good job at it?

Connor: Not really. No offense.

[ Gasps ] Is that hockey gear? No way! Is all that stuff for me?

Victor: Well, now, would you like it to be?

Connor: Are you kidding? Yes, I’d love it.

Victor: It was supposed to be wrapped for you to open tomorrow, you know.

Noah: Can I try it out now and we can go riding tomorrow?

Victor: Up to your mom.

Connor: Mom, please!

Chelsea: Oh, connor, I don’t know.

Connor: I can skate.

Chelsea: And you’re a great skater, but hockey is a contact sport.

Connor: Tell her — it’s totally safe. Fresh air, exercise.

Noah: I mean, I learned on the pond before I was connor’s age.

Connor: See?

Noah: It wasn’t my best sport, but I always had a good time. I could show him the basics.

Victor: Why don’t you try it out, okay? It’s a beautiful evening, and we don’t want to waste it, right?

Connor: Please, mom.

Noah: I promise, no frostbite, no broken bones. You have my word.

Chelsea: You better bring him back with all his teeth.

Connor: Yes! Thanks, mom!

Chelsea: Come here. Noah, please take a bunch of pictures. Connor, wear your gear. Listen to everything noah tells you to do. Have fun. I’ll pick you up later.

Connor: I will.

Adam: I’m sorry to disappoint you, but I have a full night planned with connor and chelsea.

Sally: Yeah. Of course you do.

Adam: Mm-hmm. I’m gonna be spending christmas day with my family, too.

Sally: [ Scoffs ] Yeah, I wasn’t angling to be your plus-one.

Adam: Really? You weren’t?

Sally: No. In case you haven’t noticed, i am a lone wolf. Totally independent, and I’m more than capable of spending christmas on my own.

Adam: Well, that’s good, because I don’t give pity invites.

Sally: Well, good, ’cause i don’t accept them.

Adam: But you know what? I do have a few minutes before i need to meet connor and chelsea. Just enough time to have an after-work/start-of-holiday drink. Would you like to join me? Hi. So you’re the scientist here.

Nick: I love this peppermint mint concoction.

Sharon: Well, I thought you deserved something special for confiding in me.

Nick: Well, what was i supposed to do? You are relentless.

Sharon: That’s only because i knew that you needed to talk.

Nick: Well, I appreciate you listening. I’m just not sure there’s anything you can do that’s gonna make me feel better.

Sharon: This is more about soul-searching than problem-solving, but that doesn’t mean I can’t help.

Nick: I’m not gonna like this, am I?

Sharon: You may not be sure of who you are, but I am.

Nick: Oh, boy.

Sharon: You truly are a good man, nick. You’re a thoughtful friend. You’re a wonderful father to four fantastic children. You’re an outstanding member of the community ’cause of your commitment to new hope.

Nick: Yeah, I mean, the way you make it sound, I must be a real catch.

Sharon: You are.

[ Chuckles ] You know, sometimes people can’t see that it’s the simple things they do every day that are important and valuable. And as for the rest of what you said, I’m not gonna go into the part about phyllis because you know I’m a little bit biased.

Nick: Oh, just a little bit?

Sharon: When it comes to your relationships with your family and who you are to them and where you fit in, just follow your heart.

Nick: Thanks.

Sharon: See? Aren’t you glad we talked?

Nick: I mean, you did have some flattering insights.

Sharon: It’s because, after all these years, we know each other better than anyone else. And that’s why I know that you’re — you’re gonna work your way through this.

Nick: You think?

Sharon: There’s not a doubt in my mind.

Victoria: Done.

[ Exhales sharply ] Thanks to you.

Ashland: My motives were purely selfish. I wanted you all to myself.

Victoria: What are we gonna do first? The kids are with billy, so the possibilities are endless.

Ashland: We could go for a walk, take in the holiday decorations, listen to the carolers. And if we’re lucky, maybe we’ll get a little snow.

Victoria: That sounds wonderful.

Ashland: We’ll see where our feet take us, and then we’ll head back home and enjoy dinner by the fire.

Victoria: Perfect.

Ashland: You know, this is our first christmas eve together.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ]

Ashland: Tomorrow, we will have our first christmas. And then new year’S. And then…I can’t tell you how grateful I am to share all of this with you, to share my life with you.

Victoria: I feel the same way.

Adam: So, what does a lone wolf do on christmas?

Sally: Oh, well, I have tons of traditions. First I like to turn off my alarm clock and sleep as late as I want on christmas morning.

Adam: Wow, that’s very luxurious. Since connor will expect me to be up at the crack of dawn to watch him open gifts, I have to say, I’m a little jealous.

Sally: Well, whenever I am done with my beauty sleep, i then go to my side table christmas tree and unwrap my gifts.

Adam: Oh, you mean the ones that you buy for yourself?

Sally: Wow. You think I’m really pathetic.

Adam: No.

Sally: No, that my grams and my sister bought for me. My grams normally gets me something a little bit tacky that I secretly love, and my sister keeps it classy.

Adam: Well, that sounds nice.

Sally: It is, and at some point during the day, we all call each other and conversation starts off sweet, then turns into a total gossip session. And then I will probably watch “it’s a wonderful life.”

Adam: Ooh, a true classic.

Sally: Although I have to be honest, I would rather live in pottersville than bedford falls.

Adam: Oh, no, me too. Okay? I mean, they have jazz clubs and pool halls. What’s not to love, right?

[ Both laugh ] Chelsea, come on over.

Chelsea: Am I interrupting?

Adam: Uh, no. No, not at all. Where’s connor?

Chelsea: I just dropped him off at the ranch. I have a feeling he’s gonna have a story for me when I pick him up.

Adam: Uh-oh. Why? What has he gotten himself into?

Chelsea: Well, we got there a little early. Noah was busy wrapping connor’s gifts, and our eagle-eyed son was able to figure out who the gifts were for.

Adam: Oh, nothing gets by that kid.

Chelsea: Luckily, victor saved the day, suggesting noah give connor his first hockey lesson.

Adam: Hockey?

Chelsea: Yeah, that’s what the gifts were. Hockey gear. I mean, is he old enough for this? I don’t want to be the person to say no, but I’ve also seen those toothless grins.

Adam: Eh, he’ll be fine.

Chelsea: I hope you’re right. Anyway, I didn’t disrupt all the fun over there, so I thought I’d come over here and grab a bite and head back to the penthouse.

Adam: Well, why don’t you join us?

Chelsea: Are you sure?

Adam: Yeah. We were just talking about what’s next for the fashion platform.

Chelsea: Well, how can i possibly say no to that?

[ Chuckles ] Did you know some deodorants may not last all day?

Lily: Well, I had devon pull some strings.

Billy: Wow. Devon, thank you. And this is the same weekend as the tickets I got you.

Lily: That’s pretty crazy.

Lily: So madison square garden one night and broadway the next.

Billy: This is gonna be amazing.

Lily: It’s gonna be unforgettable. Thank you so much. I really love my gift.

Billy: I love you. Mm. Now we can do that thing you were talking about earlier.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Chelsea: And I’d like to see us spotlight more size-inclusive lines, a wider range of models.

Sally: Definitely. Different body types, ethnicities. Everything.

Chelsea: We need more boots on the ground everywhere, all over the globe, for fashion week. New york, milan, paris.

Sally: Oh, and maybe we can get a model’s perspective of walking the runway, like from the fitting to the final show.

Chelsea: No, I think more maybe the designer — you know, from the sketch to the manufacturing.

Sally: Oh. Do you still have connections in the industry?

Chelsea: I have a very long, very strong track record, and i haven’t burned any bridges.

Sally: Well, that could definitely come in handy. But let’s not forget, we also need to showcase our own designs, ’cause everyone’s still dying to know how I came up with the idea for victoria’s wedding dress.

Chelsea: Oh, that’s old news. Let’s focus on the next hot thing, you know, new and exciting trends. What do you think?

Adam: That we should put work on hold and enjoy some holiday cheer.

Chelsea: Yeah, absolutely. Well, connor is just — he’s over the moon about our plans tonight, so don’t be late.

Adam: Wouldn’t miss it for the world.

Chelsea: And it’s great that you’ll be there bright and early tomorrow. He’s just so excited to hang with us and open gifts, and i got all of his favorite food for brunch.

Adam: Well, you know you’re welcome to join us at the ranch afterwards.

Chelsea: Well, I think I’ll pass. I just want to focus on what’s important to connor, and that’s the three of us just spending the day together. What about you, sally? Any special plans? You gonna be with family? Are you jet-setting off somewhere luxurious with friends?

Sally: Nope, just staying right here in town, working my fingers to the bone. I’m practically married to my job at this point, which is great, because it’s turning out better than I ever dreamed.

Victoria: [ Laughs ]

Sharon: My goodness. Hi, you guys. It’s so cold out there.

Victoria: I know.

Sharon: What can I get you?

Victoria: Oh, gosh, whatever you have that’s sweet and flaky and christmas-Y.

Sharon: Oh, for the kids?

Victoria: No, for us. Billy has the kids.

Ashland: Your sister is happy, okay? But I know how much her family means to her, and instead of there being this tension between us when our paths cross, why don’t we get it all out?

Nick: Yeah, well, getting it all out’s not gonna change my mind about anything.

Ashland: What have I done that you think is so wrong?

Nick: Really? I mean, are you kidding?

Ashland: Victoria has forgiven me for my past.

Nick: Which I think is insane. I cannot fathom how she is just okay with everything that you’ve done. I mean, you let your best friend die and then you stole his identity. And then you robbed your mentor of her fortune so you could begin your career. Yeah, I know, you filed a lawsuit against chanccomm, but i know everything in that story is true. I also know that you never would’ve told vick the truth if I hadn’t pursued this. So while she and the rest of the family don’t seem to care about this, I do. I’m never gonna forget it. I’m never gonna think it’s okay, because I think you’re an opportunist with no moral standards.

Ashland: Won’t be the same as having christmas in person, but we’ll be in milan soon enough.

Victoria: Yeah.

Nick: Hey.

Victoria: Hey, nick. I didn’t realize that you were here.

Nick: How’s it going, ashland?

Ashland: I can’t complain.

Sharon: I’m gonna get your order ready.

Victoria: Thank you.

Nick: You got a minute?

Victoria: For what?

Nick: Well, there’s something I’d like to say to ashland, unless you guys are in a rush.

Victoria: I feel like maybe the last time the two of you spoke, you probably said enough. You made it painfully clear how you feel about ashland, and i don’t think that we need to rehash that. Not on christmas eve.

Nick: I know. But there’s something I’d really like to get off my chest, if ashland is willing to listen. With age comes more…

Chelsea: Hey, guys.

Noah: Hi.

Chelsea: How was hockey?

Connor: It was great.

Chelsea: [ Chuckles ] Oh, yeah? Uh, can I see that beautiful smile of yours? Connor, is there something you want to tell me?

Connor: Remember that thing you were saying about toothless hockey stars and to be careful?

Chelsea: Noah, what happened on that ice?

Noah: I can explain. But first, let me tell you how sorry I am.

Chelsea: Sorry about what?

Noah: I hate to admit it, but…

Connor: We were pranking you!

Chelsea: Oh!

Connor: It was just a joke.

Chelsea: Oh.

Connor: Look.

Chelsea: Phew. You guys are the worst. Christmas is cancelled.

Noah: Oh, it was a great time, bud. I had a lot of fun. You’re a good kid.

Chelsea: He is, except for the mean prank he just pulled on his mom. Let’s hit the road.

Noah: Connor is so much fun. Smart, funny, kind. Makes me wonder… never mind.

Victor: Makes you wonder what? What were you gonna say?

Noah: He just doesn’t remind me at all of adam.

Victor: Well…

Noah: I-I didn’t mean it like that. And I know what adam went through, you know, as a kid. The trauma of accidentally killing a man and having to bury something like that, it… it explains a lot.

Victor: Certainly does, you know? He went through a tough time. He was raised by his mom on a farm in kansas. Tough boy, grew up the hard way. But I’m glad that you’re beginning to understand what he’s all about, okay?

Adam: Well, since you’re not going to bring it up, I will.

Sally: What are you talking about?

Sally: Yeah, I mean, that was the original idea, but it’s because of my work and my talent that newman fashion is becoming a household name.

Adam: Well, at least you’re modest.

Sally: It is not bragging if it’s the truth, and if you want me to be the face of the platform, then this face needs a voice.

Adam: Hmm. I’m staying out of it, okay?

Sally: Chelsea’s smart, she’s talented, and she’s experienced. If she wants newman fashion to succeed, she will come around.

Billy: It’s been a year.

Lily: Yes, it has.

Billy: I didn’t mean it exactly that way, but what I was gonna say is it’s been a year since I was wrongfully accused for trying to murder adam.

Lily: [ Laughs ] That’s a mood killer.

Billy: [ Chuckles ] My point is, in all of that time, you’ve been nothing but amazing. Just incredibly supportive and always believing in me.

Lily: Yeah.

Billy: That hasn’t changed.

Lily: I always will. Remember last christmas eve?

Billy: Yes, I do. Very clearly. We decided to give this whole thing a start.

Lily: I know. Well, we didn’t know where things would lead, we just knew that it felt right.

Billy: Mm-hmm.

Lily: And back then, we had separate hotel rooms.

Nick: I’m not gonna apologize for being protective of my sister. I can’t help it. And when I found out about your past, I was very worried that you were gonna hurt her.

Ashland: Well, I understand where you’re coming from.

Victoria: Ashland’s been a lot more forgiving of your behavior than I have.

Nick: I know. Well, I’ve been doing some thinking, and I’ve realized that if I’m ever gonna move forward, that I need to let go of some stuff. And I do not my resentment towards you to ruin my relationship with my sister. So, in the spirit of the holidays, [Sighs] I’d like to put this chapter behind us and start fresh.

Ashland: I would like nothing more than that. Especially for victoria’s sake. Here’s to a fresh start.

Lily: This has been heavenly.

Billy: It’s a lot harder to sneak away for moments like this now that we don’t work together.

Sally: You are most welcome. Though I couldn’t possibly decline, since your call wasn’t as much an invitation as it was a summons to appear before you, but either way, I’m happy to do it.

Victor: Good. Have a seat. So I don’t want to waste our time. I’m aware of the videos that you have sent of billy abbott to my son.

Sally: I don’t know what you mean.

Victor: I think you know exactly what I mean. Let’s please not waste any time on this charade of denying it, okay?

Sally: Fine. Yes, I sent the videos. But I don’t see a problem.

Victor: My son thinks the same. Let’s cut to the chase. What is your intention? What do you want?

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: Is that him? Or her?

Lily: Uh, nope. So maybe adam and his spy aren’t coming tonight.

Billy: Oh, I think of them are gonna show up. If it’s not adam, it’ll be sally in one of her ridiculous disguises. Either way, I’m enjoying the company. And my apple juice.

Lily: Oh, okay. How long do we wait here before calling it a night?

Billy: Long enough to enjoy ourselves and have a little bit of bite to eat, ’cause, you know, time flies when we’re together.

Lily: So this is the issue with your plan is you basically someone to come in at the right time, right place to see what you’re doing. Otherwise, you’re out of luck.

Billy: This is only the beginning of my plan for newman media. Right now, we need to be patient and hope that lady luck smiles upon us.

Lily: And if she doesn’t?

Sharon: It’s a slow night.

Sharon: People usually come here for hot chocolate or coffee after skating and shopping. I mean, where are they all? This place is usually packed before christmas.

Noah: Absolutely.

[ Doorbell rings ] Um, you know what? I’m gonna go get that. Why don’t you brush your teeth and finish getting ready for bed?

Connor: Can I drink the rest of my hot chocolate first?

Chelsea: Yeah, sure. Adam.

Adam: Hey! You two having fun?

Connor: Totally. We’ve been playing games, drinking hot chocolate, and looking at pictures.

Adam: Well, someone left their bag of comic books in my car, and I know he needs them to fall asleep.

Connor: Are you going to stay for a while?

Adam: Um…no, I have some things that I need to do.

Chelsea: And you have to get to bed, mister.

Connor: Okay, but you’ll be here for christmas, right? We always spend christmas eve

Nick: No, not fun at all, but it was a good talk. He told me that I’m the greatest father he’s ever known, so I got that going for me, which is nice. Do you also feel like that, son?

Noah: [ Exhales sharply ] Do I have a choice?

Nick: No.

Noah: Then, yes, yes, you are the greatest father, and, mom, mom’s the best mom, and we’re just the best family. Is that what you wanted to hear, something like that?

Nick: There you go. Was that so hard?

Sharon: Okay, I know you guys are just joking, but it’s actually really nice to be all together, especially this time of year. It really warms my heart.

Noah: That’s sweet. Actually, I — I have some news that I need to share, too. I took mom’s advice and I’ve given some more thought to adam’s offer to do some more work at newman media. I’m interested. I really do think adam may have changed, so…I said yes.

Sharon: Well, that’s wonderful.

Noah: Yeah, I’m actually kind of excited about it.

Nick: Uh, well, as the best father in the world, it is incumbent upon me to be supportive of my grown son’s decision about his career, so that’s what I’m doing.

Noah: Outstanding. Yeah, I’ve really enjoyed this time, you guys, but please, please, can I just get back to work on tessa’s album cover?

Nick: Yeah, I suppose we could do that.

Sharon: You know what? I’ll make some peppermint mochas, and then, nick, why don’t you and I talk out on the patio? Because we don’t want to disturb the artist formerly known as noah.

Nick: Deal.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Chelsea: You know, connor, we haven’t had a chance to talk about the holidays yet. I just got home.

Adam: Mm-hmm. But you know what? We will figure something out, i promise.

Connor: A real promise or “just something parents say” promise?

Adam: A for-real promise.

Chelsea: Why don’t you go and finish getting ready for bed?

Connor: Okay. I’ll be back down to say good night.

Adam: Alright, you better. He’s so happy that you’re home.

Chelsea: Oh, I am so happy to be home with him. But he’s right, you know. We do need to discuss christmas, so I can make some plans.

Adam: Of course.

Chelsea: Are you going to the ranch to see the newmans?

Adam: Mm-hmm, that’s right.

Chelsea: Okay. Well, that doesn’t really interest me, but I’ll go for connor. I mean, all that matters to him is that the three of us are together.

Adam: Well, the holidays with victor is an acquired taste. Well, here’s an alternative — christmas eve here together. I’ll leave when he goes to bed.

Chelsea: Okay.

Adam: Then I’ll be back in the morning for when he opens presents.

Chelsea: [ Chuckles ] That’d be great. And then the two of you will head to the ranch?

Adam: Mm-hmm, that’s right. I mean, you’re welcome to join us, if you want. It’s your call.

Chelsea: I appreciate how considerate you’re being. You don’t have to be, but you’ve been wonderful about all of this.

Adam: Well, even though you and I aren’t together, we’re still a family. And we always will be.

Sally: I understand why you would question my motives. I don’t think you have a very high opinion of me. But I can assure you that my intentions are solely helping adam and newman media. I don’t exactly know what went down between adam and billy, but I know it’s big, and billy’s probably gonna try and retaliate in some way.

Victor: So you got information about billy boy abbott, send it to adam for this possible counterattack.

Sally: That’s right.

Victor: I didn’t know you were that altruistic.

Sally: Well, I am a team player, especially when that team is newman media. And there’s something in it for me. If the company suffers, my fashion platform suffers, and i don’t want that. So I’m being proactive.

Victor: By gathering secret information and videos about billy boy abbott.

Sally: Exactly. That way we have ammunition in case he comes at us. And I’ve already caught several incriminating moments on camera, and I guarantee there will be more.

Victor: And he doesn’t suspect a damn thing?

Sally: Not as far as I can tell. He’s too interested in where his next drink is coming from to pay any close attention. So, are we good here? Are my answers satisfactory? Sweet pillows of softness!

Connor: Did you make a decision yet? What are we doing for christmas?

Adam: Uh, we are going to spend christmas eve and christmas day right here together.

Connor: Yes. You decided that pretty fast.

Chelsea: [ Chuckles ] What did you expect, some long, drawn-out battle? It was easy because we all want the same thing.

Adam: It’s gonna be a great time.

Chelsea: Yeah.

Adam: Alright, well, I should get going. Alright, and you should go to bed, so I’ll see you tomorrow. Good night.

Chelsea: Bye.

[ Sighs ] So, did you finish your christmas list?

Connor: Not yet.

Chelsea: Not yet? You better get on that. You know it’s no good after the 25th, right?

Connor: So I should stay up to write it?

Chelsea: Nice try. You can do it tomorrow morning. Why don’t you head up?

Connor: Hold on. I can tell you something i really want.

Chelsea: Okay.

Connor: Are you going to stay in town for good?

Chelsea: I am.

Connor: That’s great.

Chelsea: So you don’t have to put that on your wish list.

Connor: Well, that was only the first part. I know you and dad don’t think you can be together anymore, but it seems like you still love each other. So what I really want for christmas is for you to try and work things out. Then maybe we can be a real family again.

Chelsea: Connor, we are a real family. You are the most important person to both me and your dad. I know the past few months have been really tough on you. I mean, they’ve been tough on all of us, but we’re leaving the bad stuff in the past and we’re just focusing on the future. And it’s gonna be really wonderful. But for now, I’m just —

[ Sighs ] I’m just so happy to be back with you.

Connor: I’m glad you’re back, too, mom.

Chelsea: Come here. Oh.

Sharon: Oh, I’m sure you heard that chelsea is back in town.

Nick: I had not heard that. How’s she doing?

Sharon: Um, she seemed healthy and grounded to me. We had a pleasant conversation. It actually felt like progress.

Nick: Is she planning on sticking around?

Sharon: She said she wasn’t sure, but I can’t see her leaving as long as connor is here.

Nick: Well, it’s gonna take some time for her to get her bearings. And I’m sure it’s gonna be an adjustment period for her and adam, but I know they’re both gonna do whatever’s best for connor.

Sharon: Yeah. I’m really happy for connor. What better christmas gift than to have your mom home.

Nick: Yeah. Speaking of christmas gifts, uh, went and saw phyllis, and I took her one.

Sharon: Really? Didn’t you just bring a box of her things back to her?

Nick: Yeah. You know, it was no agenda. I wasn’t looking for reasons to see her. It’s just I had ordered something for her a while ago, and I wanted her to have it. And it turns out, she had done the same for me, so we just exchanged gifts.

Sharon: And how’d that go?

Nick: It was okay. Kind of felt like closure.

Sharon: Well, still, there must’ve been some feelings, wistfulness or maybe regret.

Nick: Yeah, impossible not to feel like that. Especially since, as I was walking out, I saw her talking to jack yet again. Kind of seems like there’s something going on there. But maybe not. I don’t know.

Sharon: Would it bother you if they got back together?

Nick: I mean, it shouldn’T. We broke up. She can do whatever she wants, just like I can.

Sharon: Well, I didn’t ask how you should feel. Just be honest.

Nick: Yeah, it’d bug me.

Sharon: Why?

Nick: Maybe it’s our history. Maybe it’s because we’ve always been very competitive with each other, and it would seem like, to me, that she’s ready to jump back into the dating world before I am. But I really do want her to be happy.

Sharon: So you don’t want her to win the break-up.

Nick: Uh…wow, when you put it like that, it sounds terrible. No, I know it’s not a contest, and people move at their own pace.

Sharon: Well, maybe you’re getting all worked up for nothing. Maybe it’s just a comforting friendship.

Nick: Yeah, maybe it’s best if I don’t think about it, and i don’t want to ruin the mood anyway. I mean, we have these very delicious-looking peppermint mochas.

Sharon: [ Chuckles ] Well, thank you. Actually, I do have something else for you, something that might lift your spirits.

Victor: I’m impressed.

Sally: Really?

Victor: You seem to be fighting for the interest of the company. But as I told my son, we need to be careful when it comes to billy abbott.

Sally: Yeah, but I-I —

Victor: No, you don’t understand. He may be reckless, may be a fool at times, but don’t you underestimate him, especially once his back is up against the wall.

Sally: So you want me to stop.

Victor: I appreciate the information you’ve provided, but there’s no longer any need for it, okay? And no longer any need for all your disguises.

Sally: With all due respect, mr. Newman, I can do this. I’m really good at it. And I don’t want to let adam down.

Victor: Oh, now we get to the crux.

Sally: What?

Victor: I knew there was another angle to what you were doing. You’re not only doing it for the good of the company. You want to impress my son adam, don’t you? Think carefully before you answer that.

Lily: You know, adam and sally aren’t gonna come in here if you keep looking at the door like that.

Billy: Do you think tonight has been a bust?

Lily: No, not at all. I’ve actually had a really good time. It’s almost like we’re doing one of those things where you have dinner without there being an elaborate scheme involved. Do you know what I’m talking about?

Billy: Oh, like a date?

Lily: Yes, like a date.

Billy: Oh, my gosh.

Lily: We should try that.

Billy: We should do that. Maybe we should do both — elaborate scheme and date, you know?

Lily: Yeah, very efficient of you.

Billy: Mm-hmm. I’m not ready to go home yet. I’m having fun.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: How about we get some dessert? ‘Cause I refuse to believe that luck is not on our side. Not after everything victor and adam put us through.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Oh. I guess you’re right. The eagle has landed. He’s here.

Lily: Yeah.

Billy: [ Sighs ]

Lily: Okay, you know what, billy? I really don’t want to do this right now. Alright, it’s been a long day and I am really tired.

Billy: Really?

Lily: Yeah.

Billy: Really, lily? You’re not the only one that’s tired. Trust me, you’re not the only one.

Billy: I’m tired. I’m tired of all of this. I’m tired of your complaining. I’m — I’m over it, lily. I’m out of here.

Lily: Billy, stop. You cannot drive right now.

Billy: I’m gonna drive, okay? I’ll get a ride.

Lily: No, let’s just go home, okay?

Billy: Go home? Why would I go home? So I can listen to you complain about why it’s my fault we lost chanccomm?

Lily: I already told you, i don’t blame you.

Billy: You ended up great in this, so I don’t understand it. I mean, you are now the queen of chancellor, right? You’ve got a purpose, lily. That’s what you wanted, isn’t it?

Lily: Okay, billy, let’s just go home. Let’s go home.

Billy: Oh, wow. Look at this. Yeah, I had a purpose once, too, until that jackass stole it from me. And you think you could have a little bit of compassion, just a little bit? Stop telling me to grow up and act like an adult.

Lily: Okay, billy —

Billy: I’m gonna make you pay. Do you hear me?

Adam: You do that.

Lily: Oh, my god, billy!

Sally: I won’t deny that i have an attraction to adam.

Victor: Well, thank you for your candor. At this time, it would be foolish to hide it, alright?

Sally: But I’m not pursuing it. We agreed — we’re friends, we’re colleagues. That’s it.

Victor: That had better be true because adam does not need any more complications in his life.

Sally: And I do not intend on being one.

Victor: Now that chelsea has returned, he needs to focus his energy on making his son feel secure about his parents, although they’re no longer together.

Sally: Yeah, I understand.

Victor: So you’re gonna be working with chelsea?

Sally: Yeah, but it’s nothing to worry about. I won’t be involved in any romantic entanglements in the office. I have other priorities, and I’m sure chelsea does, too. And adam has made it very clear that he has no time for a relationship right now.

Victor: Has he?

Sally: Abundantly. And you must know how important my career is to me. It is just starting to take off again. I am not gonna do anything to jeopardize it.

Victor: Mm-hmm, that’s good to know. Especially when I think of what you’ve done to summer.

Sally: Yeah. Yes, it took some time. For a while there, I was justifying my actions. “Summer has a great job in italy and she loves it,” but, no, i realize that what I did was wrong. It was selfish and vindictive, but I can’t change the past. All I can do is do my best to prove that I am not that person anymore.

Victor: Okay. I will give you that opportunity. You know, your fashion platform has not gone unnoticed.

Sally: Thank you.

Victor: And that dress you designed for victoria’s wedding —

Sally: Yeah, that was a transitional —

Victor: No, no, no, no, not so fast. You made her very happy. It was beautiful. And it aroused interest in newman fashion. So if I were you, I would concentrate on my work. Keep your head on your shoulders. Look straight ahead. Don’t be distracted by other things, and you’ll be fine. Okay?

Sally: Thank you.

Victor: I’m impressed. And I hope you will continue to impress me as time goes on.

Lily: Oh, my god, are you okay?

Billy: Yeah, I’m fine.

Billy: Stop. Can we not make a big deal out of this, please? I’m fine. I can get up by myself. I don’t need your help. I don’t need your pity. It’d be nice to have a little bit of understanding, but I’m clearly not getting that tonight.

Billy: Someplace where I feel welcome, where I can let off a little steam without feeling judged.

Sharon: Wow. It’s really beautiful.

Nick: I mean, that’s great, man. I’m not just saying that ’cause I’m the best dad ever. I really love it.

Adam: Hey. Hey, you just missed quite the display. Billy went off on lily, and then he fell on his face.

Sally: As in, like, he really embarrassed himself?

Adam: As in he literally fell on the floor and bounced his head off of it.

Sally: Is he okay?

Adam: Eh, he seemed fine physically. I mean, probably did major damage to his relationship with lily.

Sally: Might make him fall even deeper into his downward spiral.

Adam: Mm-hmm. Yeah, I don’t know why she’s stayed with him as long as she has. But when I tried to approach her about it, she just accused me and my father of wrecking his life.

Adam: Mm-hmm. He left here alone on a collision course for trouble.

Sally: Well, hold that thought. There’s something you should know. I just came back from a very interesting meeting with your father.

Adam: Really?

Sally: I will have what he’s having. Thank you. Good news first.

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Sally: I won him over.

Adam: How’d you do that?

Sally: Well, I’m quite charming.

Adam: I know. But it probably took more than that.

Sally: I talked about victoria’s wedding dress and how committed I am to the job and making amends for past mistakes. He asked me about my relationship with you.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Well, he shouldn’t — he shouldn’t have done that. It’s none of his business.

Sally: That’s never stopped him before. I told him that we were keeping things strictly professional, like you wanted. So there is no going back on that now.

Adam: So that is the good news. I mean, what’s the bad news?

Sally: He knows that I’m the one that’s been spying on billy. He understands that I have good intentions, but he asked me to stop.

Adam: Hmm. Well, that is interesting because when I told him about our helpful anonymous source, he didn’t mention your name. He just told me to tread carefully and to keep him in the loop. Thought it was a two-way street. Guess not. Maybe he doesn’t trust my judgment.

Sally: I think it’s more that he doesn’t trust me not to screw things up.

Adam: What if I asked you to carry on and not worry about him? What he doesn’t know won’t hurt him or us.

Sally: I would say, tell me more about this collision course that billy abbott is on.

Adam: Okay, um…billy has been following the same pattern when things got rough with victoria a few years ago, which means I have a pretty good idea of where he’s headed next. Did you know some deodorants may not last all day?

Frankie: Yeah, don’t drink too much. Last time…

[ Laughter ]

Billy: Well, well, well. Do you degenerates ever go home?

Frankie: After all this time, billy abbott is back. Deal you in?

Adam: I know you, chelsea. I can hear it in your voice that you still think it’s possible. But, honestly, I’m surprised to hear that because it wasn’t that long ago that you wanted me out of your life so bad that you thought sending me to prison was the answer.

Adam: Well, I just wanted to let you know that I have changed some christmas plans.

Adam: So it’ll just be the three of us in the penthouse on christmas eve and christmas morning.

Victor: Oh, so you’re gonna stay over?

Adam: No, I’m gonna sleep in my own bed and be there for him to open gifts.

Victor: Right. Well, I’m very happy you’re gonna spend some more time with connor.

Adam: Glad you see it that way.

Victor: Anyway, I’m glad you showed up because there’s something that I need to discuss with you, okay? Something that came up today.

Billy: I’m gonna get two, please.

Sharon: You drew it right after we came home from that trip to chicago.

Noah: Yeah, I remember, we went down there for a hockey game. But, guys, I think you’re missing out on the subtlety of tessa’s album cover.

Nick: I don’t know, dude. I think you’re forgetting your early influences. I mean, the seeds of your artistic vision have been there since you were eight.

Noah: Oh, gosh.

Chelsea: What’s wrong?

Connor: I just couldn’t fall asleep.

Chelsea: Oh. Do you have any idea why?

Connor: I thought I would like it, being back in my old room, in my old bed. But it feels…different. It’s like home but not. Does that sound weird?

Chelsea: No. That’s not weird at all. I mean, connor, you were at boarding school, and then you’ve been staying at the ranch, so it’s been a while since you slept in that bed. Plus, you’ve gotten so big. It makes sense that it feels smaller.

Connor: Kind of, yeah.

Chelsea: Yeah, but it is different. For me, too. I mean, as thrilled as I am to be home, it feels strange. But this is our home. You know, it’s all about those changes we were talking about earlier. It’s just — it’s just an adjustment.

Connor: Or maybe we should all stay at the ranch. There’s so much space. Grandma and grandpa have rooms they don’t even use. Maybe dad can move into one and you can stay at the tack house.

Chelsea: I’m staying here, connor. It’s where I belong. But soon enough, hopefully, it’ll start to feel like home again for the both of us.

Adam: So what do you want to talk about?

Victor: Well, there was a tech company from atlanta that called me earlier. They offered their support services in case we needed any. But I thought maybe it might be —

Adam: Uh, more cost effective to just buy the company rather than use the services they provide, uh-huh.

Victor: See, now you’re reading my mind, right? You bet. I’ll send you the info. Okay?

Adam: I’ll take a look.

Billy: I gave her an earful and an eyeful to report back to adam, so now it is time to celebrate. Are you mad at me that I left?

Devon: Really into the holiday spirit, aren’t you?

Amanda: Yeah. You know, I’m so excited to spend christmas eve with my family. Last year, I was watching it all from the sidelines, but this year, we get to celebrate together.

Devon: It is very special. We have some big plans, too, tonight and tomorrow, including a private holiday — christmas celebration that I’m very much looking forward to.

Amanda: Yeah.

Devon: I just have one important stop to make, though.

Amanda: Oh, don’t think i forgot. I made my list, I checked it twice. Next stop, the chancellor house. So, do you need some help wrapping presents for abby, chance, and dominic?

Devon: Absolutely, yes, please. Please come help me. I was thinking of putting dominic’s present in this bag right here, if you’d like to open it up. I figure he’s probably not gonna realize what’s going on, but i think he’ll respond to all the colors and, you know, the tree lights and music around him.

Amanda: Yeah. I have no doubt that he will. And I have no doubt that he’ll also respond to you.

Abby: Aww. Esther sent dominic his very own christmas card. Look at this, it says, “have a merry little christmas, precious mistletoe baby. Let this be the beginning of many happy holidays to come. Love, esther.”

Chance: Well, that’s just so esther.

Abby: Mm. We have to put this in his baby book.

Chance: Yeah.

Abby: And look at this one. “Merry christmas and happy new year. With much love and happiness, summer, kyle, and harrison.”

Chance: Wow. We just so much love and support. It means so much to me.

Abby: Yeah, to me, too. That’s why I want to go to midnight service tonight, because we have so much to be grateful for. We have our miracle baby, I have my brave husband, and we’re all together. We had so many dreams last year, and they’ve all come true.

Chance: [ Chuckles ]

Tessa: [ Sighs ]

Mariah: I thought you were running errands.

Tessa: And I thought you had to work.

Mariah: Well, it looks like your “errands” included a shopping spree.

Tessa: And clearly you had to “work” on your shopping.

Mariah: Hey, no! No peeking.

Tessa: Well, fine, then that goes for you, too. Or santa’s gonna take all these presents back. Deal?

Phyllis: Hey, jack. Merry christmas.

Jack: Merry christmas. Ready for the big day?

Phyllis: You know, I thought I was ready. I screwed up and I — daniel and lucy’s gifts, they’re not gonna get there until new year’s, so it’s gonna be a new year’s day celebration.

Jack: Hey, you know what they say. Better late than never.

Phyllis: I don’t think that that applies to christmas, but thank you. So what are your plans?

Jack: Well, traci brought over a mountain of gifts to the chancellor house, but it wasn’t everything. I’m bringing a few more now.

Phyllis: Nice. That’s gonna be a house filled with holiday cheer.

Jack: I’ve known you a long time, red. I know when you’re hurting.

Abby: Last christmas feels like a lifetime ago.

Chance: Mm.

Abby: Our first christmas as a married couple, and you said that you were gonna make our honeymoon last the rest of our lives.

Chance: Yeah, and I tell you, it was not easy getting all those tropical plants in the house in the dead of winter.

Abby: And who would’ve thought when you gave me that ornament, that just one year later, all of our dreams would come true.

Chance: You know, I was hoping for a little christmas magic, but I didn’t think it would happen so fast. Especially given everything that we had to overcome, right?

Abby: Yeah. But I don’t even want to think about that. It took a lot more than christmas magic to make our dreams come true. It took love and hope. That’s what brought dominic to us.

Chance: Yeah, unfortunately, though, there was a lot of pain for all of us. Sometimes it’s hard to forget that.

Abby: Hey. The worst is behind us. We’re together now. We’re a family. And I just feel joy and overwhelming gratitude that we made it through.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Abby: Who is it?

Traci: Special delivery from the north pole.

Abby: Oh, yay!

Traci: [ Laughs ]

Abby: Ahh!

Traci: [ Laughs ]

Traci: [ Laughs ] I am so happy to finally see you in person. Welcome home, honey.

Chance: Thank you.

Abby: Aunt traci, did you mug santa and steal all of his presents?

Chance: Did you leave any presents for the other kids?

Traci: [ Laughs ] Okay, look, before you guys accuse me of trying to spoil my grand-nephew, these are from all of the abbotts. Jack and ashley wanted to make sure that all the presents were under the tree for baby dominic’s first christmas.

Abby: But, aunt traci, you do know that —

Traci: Yeah, I know. Of course. He’s too young to understand, but, look, you’re just gonna have to humor the older generation this time.

Abby: I am so sorry. We forgot to tell you. We’re not doing gifts this year. Yeah, we’re actually making a donation in dominic’s name to a charity.

Chance: Yeah, I mean, like you said, he’s just a little too young to appreciate it.

Abby: Yeah.

[ Laughs ]

Chance: [ Laughs ]

Abby: I’m sorry, I’m sorry. You should’ve seen your face. We are totally kidding.

Traci: You two! Oh, my gosh, you totally got me.

Abby: No, no, no, we are making a donation in dominic’s name to a charity, but we are also giving him presents, so these are very generous and much appreciated.

Traci: There aren’t very many toys. It leans more toward the sentimental this year, with a few abbott family heirlooms thrown in.

Abby: Aww, I love that. I can’t wait to help dominic unwrap them. But we do have to wait for my mom. Have you heard from her? Any news on her delayed flight?

Traci: The last time I talked to her, she promised that she could be here by tonight, even if she has to hijack one of santa’s reindeer.

Abby: [ Laughs ]

Dominic: [ Crying ]

Abby: Oh, there’s dom right on schedule and ready to eat.

Chance: Let me handle it. I got a lot of missed feedings to make up for.

Traci: Oh, sweetie, tell me, how’s everything going, really?

Tessa: Okay, what about christian?

Mariah: Oh, he’s gonna love the gift that I got him.

Tessa: Great. That’s everybody, then.

Mariah: Awesome.

Tessa: Okay. I have to confess. I know you probably already got dominic a bunch of gifts, but I saw this little rock ‘n’ roll onesie, and I just couldn’t help but think to myself, “what self-respecting baby could live without it?”

Mariah: I get it, but I do have a confession to make. I might have got dominic more than a few gifts.

Tessa: I so get it. I mean, baby stuff is just so hard to resist. All their little toys that go clickety-clack and their little booties.

Mariah: Wow, it seems like you might be ready to start that discussion of having one of our own.

Tessa: Uh, well…

Mariah: Oh, I’m sorry. No, no, no, forget I said that. I am so sorry. I don’t want to push it. Not today, especially. It’s christmas eve, and we have a lot of stockings to fill.

Abby: Yeah, yeah, things are going really great, actually. They’re going really well. Yeah. I mean, I know that it’s gonna take some time and, you know, it’s a process, but chance is determined to make up for the time that he lost with us.

Traci: I’m so glad to hear that.

Abby: Yeah. Yeah, I mean, I think he feels like everyone else had a head start with dominic, but, no, he’s eager to connect with him, and I know it’s gonna happen. It’s gonna be just like it was supposed to be from the beginning. And in the meantime, I just want to make sure that everything is perfect.

Traci: Sweetie, do me a favor, please. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself. I mean, these last months, you have coped heroically with some really difficult circumstances, and now chance is home, safe and sound, so things don’t have to be perfect. Just sit back and enjoy your lovely family.

Abby: [ Chuckles ] Yes, but, aunt traci, I’m not really a “sit back” kind of gal.

[ Both laugh ] And making sure that this christmas is perfect is more of a gift than a burden. I just — I want to do whatever I can to make sure that chance doesn’t want to go away again.

Traci: Why? Has he mentioned going back in the field?

Abby: No, no, actually, the opposite. I mean, he’s talked about joining the gcpd again, but he’s gonna take his time, gonna ease back into it, gonna take it slowly. You know, we’re gonna spend as much time as possible together as a family.

Traci: Oh, I think that’s really smart.

Abby: I want to make sure that life here is just as fulfilling for him as going on a mission.

Traci: All I’m saying —

Abby: Hey, aunt traci, don’t worry. I got this. You know what? I want to lock down tomorrow’s menu. You want to help me out?

Traci: You bet I do. Let’s go do it.

[ Chuckles ]

Phyllis: Listen, I don’t want to sound pathetic. I fear it’s too late for that, but [Chuckles] I just miss my kids, that’s all. So…I know everybody tells me summer’s doing so great, and I’m so proud of her for being her successful, bold self, but i just miss her. And these — these video chats, they’re not enough for me. I just want to hug her, that’s all. That’s it.

Jack: I know exactly how you feel, and there’s nothing pathetic about it.

Phyllis: I even miss harrison. I hardly know him, but the three of them are so cute together. I just — I want to be there with them.

Jack: I identify with every word you say. I miss them, too. Is there anyone else you miss?

Phyllis: You mean nick?

Jack: Who else?

Phyllis: Yes. And no. Hi. So you’re the scientist here.

Jack: Hey, I asked the question. You don’t have to go easy on me.

Phyllis: I know that. Listen, I am sad about the break-up, but it hasn’t broken me.

Jack: That’s great. I’m happy about that.

Phyllis: Yeah. Yeah, and don’t get me wrong, I do miss nick. I do, and christian. And especially on a day like today. Ugh. But that break-up had to happen. It had to. There was something missing for a long — I don’t want to talk about this anymore. I’m wallowing. Enough. I hate wallowing.

Jack: So let me give you an alternative. Why don’t you come have some holiday cheer at abby and chance’s with me?

Phyllis: Um…I don’t think so.

[ Chuckles ] I don’t think abby wants me there.

Jack: That is not an acceptable excuse. Your hotel wars are now ancient history. Abby is on cloud nine. Besides…time with dominic just makes things that much jollier.

Chance: Hey, buddy bell.

[ Chuckles ] Oh, dom, I am so happy I didn’t miss your first christmas. You feel all that excitement in the air? Hmm? These are what we call the holidays, kiddo. Yeah. They’re gonna come every year. You’re gonna learn to love them. And soon enough, you’ll be counting down the days till they come. Just watch.

[ Sighs ] See all these pretty cards up here? Yeah? They’re all from people that love you already. Isn’t that cool? Oh. Kim dunaway. You don’t know her yet, but she helped your daddy get home safe to you. “Chance, I hope the holidays find you and abby and your precious little one reunited and enjoying this special season together. [ Chuckles ] I hope one day you can forgive me for being gone for so long. I wanted to be here with you, man. I really did. I really, really did. And I know so much time has passed and I can’t get that back, and… I don’t know, I just promise you, dom, we’re gonna have so much more time together. So many more ways to connect. You know, the rest of my team wasn’t that lucky. They won’t have another holiday with their kids.

Chance: Hey, hey. Alright, big guy’s all fed, fresh diaper, and he’s already asking about all these presents over here.

Abby: Oh, well, my sweet little angel. I would say about 90% of those gifts are all yours.

Abby: But the holiday season is really about family and friendship, love, and joy.

Abby: This is perfect timing because dominic is awake, and he has been scoping out all of the gifts.

Tessa: Well, good, because babies can never have enough presents.

Mariah: And neither can mom and dad.

Abby: Well, this is a bit over the top. Look at this.

Mariah: No, it’s a godmother’s obligation and privilege to spoil her godchild. Speaking of, where is he? Hi, little buddy. How you doing? You know, I feel so bad, because you really are missing out on the best part of the holidays. That’s the food.

[ Laughter ] I mean, those christmas cookies are just so good. It’s okay. You just get something to look forward to next year.

Tessa: No, you got it. It’s my turn with the baby.

[ Squeals ]

Devon: Yeah, it would be nice, you know, to think that dominic recognizes me enough to miss me. But he’s just a little baby still, you know? I’m just happy to spend any part of the holiday with him.

Amanda: Of course you are.

Devon: I think I’ve also finally accepted that he’s not staying here, because I didn’t wake up at all last night imagining him crying.

Amanda: You know, you’re not fooling me. And I don’t think that you’re fooling yourself. It’s clear that you still miss him and that these, you know, short, little visits, they’re not gonna make up for this one-on-one time that you really want.

Devon: I mean, yeah, you’re right.

Amanda: Yeah, so have you given a little more thought to what we talked about? Not that, you know, the holidays is the right time to do it, but are you gonna ask abby and chance for more than just visits at their home? Maybe, you know, they’ll consider occasionally letting you bring little dom here. Hmm?

Chance: Yeah, just been spending a lot of time at home and trying to get as much time as I can with abby and dominic.

Phyllis: Hmm. Well, I’m sure that’s great. This little guy, so sweet. Oh, such an angel.

Mariah: Seems like chance is really adjusting to being back home.

Tessa: Yes, and abby seems so happY.

Mariah: Is it crazy to think that bowie is already flourishing because of it? I mean, he looks taller. He’s gonna be growing hair soon, rocking a faux-hawk. Oh, my god, how cute is that gonna be?

Tessa: So, is your heart set on having a biological baby or would you ever consider adopting?

Devon: Obviously, I would love for dominic be able to come and stay for extended visits. You know, I don’t mind the responsibility at all.

Amanda: But?

Devon: But I don’t know how abby would feel about that happening.

Amanda: I know that this is not gonna be an easy conversation, but abby is a loyal friend and this is important to you. I don’t think that there’s any harm in asking.

Devon: I — is there? I don’t — I’m not sure about that. You know? Chance just got back home, so he has an opportunity right now to be a good father. I think they need to spend this time bonding with each other, and I don’t want to interfere with that.

Amanda: Listen, I admire your stance on this, but you’re hurting yourself.

Devon: No, I’m not. I’m not hurting anybody, and it’s not about me. It’s not. I appreciate you being concerned, but I probably should wait, give this some time.

Amanda: Okay, I will stop pushing. I will accept your decision. But just so you know, your selflessness and this big heart of yours…

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Traci: So, phyllis, how did you end up going on christmas eve visits with jack today?

Hey, listen, I know that you and your sister are very protective of jack, so don’t worry about anything. Nothing’s happening between us. We’re just very good friends.

Traci: Well, the last thing i would want is to get in the way of my brother’s happiness. I’m just curious. Are you and jack not together because he won’t go there or because you won’t?

Phyllis: Um…I’m actually not gonna answer that question, not for the reasons that you think, but for the fun that I’m gonna get out of ashley and everyone else thinking it might be a possibility.

Mariah: I don’t have all the answers yet. I mean, right now, I’m too amazed that we’re even having this conversation to think about how we would conceive a child. We are having this conversation, right?

Tessa: Mm-hmm. And I have even more questions. Like, if we decide to go the biological route, which one of us would be the carrier? I mean, I know you said you couldn’t get pregnant for a while, but, you know, we’re not really in any rush. And what about a donor? I mean, where do we find one?

Mariah: Okay, okay, wait. I love your enthusiasm, but you need to slow down ’cause these are things that we would go over, you know, together, step by step, and… that is, if we both are sure that we want to start a family.

Tessa: Well, then we should do that. Now. I mean, we should talk it out, make a plan.

Mariah: I don’t even know what to say. I just know how hesitant you’ve been.

Tessa: I didn’t want to have a baby just to replace bowie in your life. I only want this if it’s what both of us truly want in our hearts.

Mariah: What changed your mind?

Tessa: You.

Mariah: [ Scoffs ]

Tessa: I watched you today, and it seems like you’ve made peace with bowie and his mom and his dad. And I know that it was so hard, but I’m so proud of you for putting that little boy first. And now, maybe we can put our own child first.

Mariah: Our own child.

Tessa: Yeah. That’s what I want. To start a family with you.

Abby: Well, I can only assume after what I just witnessed that my aunt traci was fishing for info about you and my uncle jack.

Phyllis: Yep, and I’ll tell you exactly what I told her, nothing’s going on. We’re just friends, so don’t freak out.

Abby: Well, I have much higher priorities these days.

Phyllis: Okay, so why are you asking me?

Abby: I guess old habits die hard. I mean, when I think about all of the time and energy that i spent fighting with you over that hotel.

Phyllis: Mm. Yes, it was not our finest hour.

Abby: I just can’t believe i got so petty over a building.

Phyllis: It’s not a building, abby. It’s my hotel. It’s the grand phoenix, not just a building.

Abby: Well, now I have dominic, and when I look in his eyes, I just know that I need to be a good example for him. I need to do better.

Phyllis: Okay. I mean, I’m sorry, but you know a good mom does not mean being an angel saint of the universe.

Abby: Are you actually giving me parenting advice?

Phyllis: Yes, I am. And the old abby would’ve liked to point out my less-than-perfect traits. But I’ll tell you something, my kids are amazing. And I have an amazing relationship with my daughter. You know why? Because I was always myself and I never tried to file down my edges. I was always me, and it doesn’t mean you have to be, like, the naked heiress with your son, of course, but, you know, just be your authentic self.

Abby: Well, my authentic self is physically and emotionally exhausteD.

Phyllis: Oh, yeah, join the club. Yeah, it’s gonna be like that forever. Even when they’re adults and they have families of their own, for sure.

Jack: Hey, maybe I’m overreaching here, but I get the sense that you’re struggling a bit with the fact that you weren’t around for the early part of your child’s life.

Chance: Yeah, you know, i find myself trying to play catch-up. Don’t get me wrong, I know how lucky I am to have this little guy in my life.

Jack: Well, you know what? Focus on that. If it’s any comfort, know that he has been loved from the day he got here — even before that. Abby and devon, mariah, his grandparents, his aunts, his uncles, friends — we should all be loved that much.

Chance: Yeah. I truly am grateful for everyone, really.

Jack: And for what it’s worth, I’ve also been there. I know what it feels like to have missed a part of my child’s life.

Chance: Yeah.

Jack: You know what? I’ve been able to make up for it. I’m very proud of the relationship I have with kyle today.

Chance: Our situations were just a little different. I should have been here for him and abby.

Jack: You get to let go of the guilt. Really. You worked very hard to get back here with your family. You’re here now. That’s something to celebrate. Something to cherish.

Abby: As much as I love seeing all of our family and friends, I am ready to sit back and relax with my family.

Chance: [ Sighs ]

[ Doorbell rings ]

[ Groans ]

Chance: Guess we got to wait a little longer to relax, huh?

Abby: Mm.

[ Sighs ]

Chance: [ Grunts ]

Abby: Merry christmas!

Devon: Hey!

Abby: Come on in.

Amanda: Thank you.

Abby: Oh, you guys look great.

Devon: So do you. Hey. What’s going on?

Chance: Hi.

Abby: Well, I can only imagine what is in that bag. More gifts for dom.

Devon: Oh, how’d you guess?

Abby: [ Laughs ]

Devon: Judging by this big pile here, though, looks like we’re a little late.

Abby: We have everything under the tree except for frankincense and myrrh.

[ Laughs ]

Devon: Hey, what do you know? That’s exactly what we bought him.

Abby: Oh.

Amanda: Very funny, devon. You know, we have something here for you, too.

Chance: Oh, that’s so sweet of you. We actually got something for you two, as well.

Devon: You guys didn’t have to do that. Where is he at? Hey. Merry first christmas, buddy.

Abby: [ Laughs ]

Devon: How you doing? Aww. Hey, I have a request, actually, for you guys. I was hoping to give dominic his present now, if that’s okay.

Abby: Yeah, yeah, of course. Chance, do you want to help dominic open it up?

Chance: I think devon should do the honors.

Abby: Yeah, see the christmas presents?

[ Gasps ] Let’s see.

Devon: Alright.

Abby: There’s a gift. See the gift? Let’s see. You want to see?

Devon: So neil bought this… for the baby that hilary and i were supposed to have. It plays his favorite jazz song, which also happens to be a song that dominic really liked when he was staying with me.

Abby: No, we can’t possibly keep that. That is way too special. Oh, shh.

Devon: That’s exactly why i want him to have it.

Abby: Aww. Well, he’s gonna cherish it forever.

Chance: Thank you so much, man. That’s truly kind of you.

Devon: Absolutely.

Amanda: Go ahead, devon. Play it for them.

Devon: Okay.

Abby: Shh. Look at it. Do you see the music box? Do you see it?

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Abby: What is it?

Devon: He hears it, yeah.

Abby: He loves it.

Devon: I’m glad he likes it.

Abby: He loves it. Aww.

Devon: He’s feeling it.

Mariah: You really mean this? You’re not doing this for me, you want this for yourself?

Tessa: To be honest, one of the reasons I was originally hesitant is because of my own childhood. Growing up with my family was such a mess. It was scary to imagine bringing another life into this world and not giving them a better life than my parents did.

Mariah: Hey, it’s scary for me, too. It really is, but somehow, i think that’s the way it’s supposed to be.

Tessa: Well, one of the reasons why I would like to consider adopting is because, you know, maybe we could break the cycle, get a kid out of a bad situation, like we were in. Give them a stable home.

Mariah: Who ever thought that we would be at a place in our life where we could provide a child with stability? I mean, with all of the mistakes we’ve made along the way, everything we’ve been through.

Tessa: But we can. And we can give them the most important thing of all — love.

Mariah: No matter how we end up bringing a child into our lives, love is a given. And despite how hard we try to be the perfect parents, we are going to mess up. And it’s gonna get a little crazy at times.

Tessa: [ Laughs ] Well, even with the crazy factor, a baby of our own would be pretty cool, huh?

Mariah: Yeah. Yeah, it really would.

Amanda: Thank you guys for all of these gifts.

Devon: Yes, you guys went really overboard.

Abby: Oh, well, look who’s talking. Merry christmas.

Devon: Merry christmas.

Chance: Thank you all again. You all drive safe. Happy holidays.

Chance: Alright, nope, nope, nope, I don’t see any other visitors on the horizon. The coast is clear. Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Abby: But not for long.

Chance: Golly. Who is this? Oh, it’s mom.

Abby: Oh.

Chance: Ready? Merry christmas.

Nina: Hello! It’s grandma.

[ Chuckles ] I wanted to be the first to officially wish you a merry christmas, and thanks to the time different in australia, i get a head start.

Abby: Well, dominic says merry christmas to you, too.

Chance: [ Chuckles ]

Nina: Phillip and I sent our presents, and I’ve been tracking them very carefully and they should definitely be arriving today.

Abby: Well, to paraphrase one of your favorite movie quotes, “we’re gonna need a bigger tree.”

Nina: [ Laughs ] Oh, do you know how much I miss you all? Such a special day. I wish I could be there in person.

Chance: Oh, but you are, mom. Yeah, look at this. You see that? That’s the angel that katherine gave you all those years ago and you gave to me. It’s watching over us, just like you always are.

Nina: Oh.

Phyllis: Oh! Oh, my goodness. Alright, well, can I treat you to a holiday drink from our holiday menu?

Jack: I had a lot of egg nog there. I better pace myself.

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ] Hey, thank you.

Jack: For what?

Phyllis: You know for what.

Jack: I hope traci wasn’t too pushy with you.

Phyllis: No, she wasn’T. She’s just protecting her brother, that’s all. I had a really good time.

Jack: So why don’t we keep this holiday spirit going? What are you doing with the rest of your holiday?

Phyllis: Well, besides the video chat that we have with summer and kyle, I have nothing going on.

Jack: Well, now you have a plan. Come have christmas eve dinner with the abbotts. With downy infusions, let the scent set the mood.

Phyllis: Hmm. Wow. Um…well, thank you. I, um — I’m gonna say no.

Jack: Give me one good reason why.

Phyllis: I’ll give you two — your sisters.

Jack: But you and traci just got along wonderfully. It is proof positive you can enjoy the holiday in the same room.

Phyllis: Oh, come on, traci’s polite. Ashley, on the other hand, she’ll skip that and draw blood. Forget it. That would be a holiday disaster.

Jack: I completely disagree.

Phyllis: Okay, listen, let’s be honest. We decided to preserve this friendship that we have.

Jack: Right.

Phyllis: Okay. So I don’t want to blow it up, and I seem to blow up my relationships, and I don’t want to wreck this. So how do we keep — how do we keep this friendship on track?

Jack: Simple. By you joining me for a festive holiday dinner at my place with all the trimmings.

Abby: You know, what you said to your mom was so sweet. I know you made her day. We are all so happy to have you back with us. Sometimes, I feel like there’s a guardian angel looking out for us.

Chance: Wait, do you hear that? Oh, my gosh, look around. We got a guest-free house. No way.

Abby: [ Laughs ]

Chance: I got to go do some gift-wrapping of my own now.

Abby: Wrapping? Wait, what’s left? We already have so many gifts under the tree.

Chance: You’re about to find out tomorrow.

Abby: Tomorrow? Come on, just give me a little hint.

Chance: Nope.

Abby: Tell dom, he won’t tell me.

Chance: [ Chuckles ] You’re just gonna have to be patient. Christmas surprise will be here in the morning.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Chance: Shh.

Abby: Mm.

[ Music box plays ] Listen to that. Isn’t it so pretty? Mm. You know, dom, I prayed so hard for you. And every time you smile or laugh, I know that there’s a guardian angel watching over us. So good.

Chance: What’s going on in the kitchen?

Abby: Everything is good. Pamela just wanted me to try this new sauce that she’s been working on.

Chance: I hope you told her that we’re just stopping for a drink. She didn’t need to make anything.

Abby: I did, but when I told her we had good news, she insisted on sending me out my favorite appetizer.

Chance: See? I was afraid that was gonna happen.

Abby: Don’t worry. She’s whipping something up for you, too.

Chance: Oh, okay.

Abby: Mm. [ Chuckles ] Hey!

Amanda: Oh, hi.

Devon: Hey, you two. You guys on a date also?

Abby: Well, we are having a celebratory drink. Did devon tell you that the people responsible for the explosion that injured chance have been apprehended?

Amanda: Yes. Yes, he did. You must be so relieved. I’m sure you’re so much more comfortable being out in public now.

Chance: Yes. Yes. I’m just glad that the mission was completed.

Abby: Hey, why don’t you guys join us?

Devon: Oh, no, we don’t want to intrude on you guys. That’s okay.

Abby: I have new pictures of dominic.

Devon: You do?

Abby: Mm-hmm.

Devon: Well, alright. How can I resist that?

[ Laughter ] Sure.

Nate: [ Sighs ] Guess I’ll get a cup of coffee for the road.

Elena: I thought you were staying.

Nate: That wouldn’t be in doubt if you would have answered the question I asked you earlier.

Elena: You mean about us living together?

Nate: You wanted time to think about it, so I’m giving you all the time you need. No pressure.

Elena: I have an answer. But before I give it to you, I have a confession to make.

Phyllis: No, summer, don’t worry about it. Listen, everybody splurges around this time of year. Yes. Of course. You and kyle have to be prepared to open all those gifts yourself because harrison’s attention span — I mean, he’s not gonna do it. I know.

[ Laughs ] Alright. I love you, baby. We’ll talk later. Hi.

Nick: Hey.

Phyllis: Hey. Uh…

[ Chuckles nervously ] Uh, do you want to send that with all the other gifts, uh, to italy? We could send those together.

Nick: Yeah, I already mailed my stuff to italy. This is for you.

Victor: Hey, son.

Adam: Dad.

[ Door closes ] I, uh, wasn’t expecting you tonight.

Victor: Yeah, well, I wanted to find out how things went with you and chelsea at the penthouse.

Adam: [ Exhales sharply ] Um, well, talk about returning to the scene of the crime. It’s a little strange, being there with her.

Victor: I bet.

Adam: Fortunately, connor doesn’t know anything about it, though.

Victor: Well, that’s a tricky situation, isn’t it, I mean, knowing how much connor wants his parents to be reunited, you know?

Adam: Yeah, well, I made it clear that that is not gonna happen.

Victor: Does chelsea know the two of you have no future together?

Adam: I think so.

Victor: Uh-huh.

Adam: She’s, um, focused on starting the next chapter of her life.

Victor: Mm.

Adam: She finally met sally in person today.

Victor: Hmm. How did that go?

Adam: Well enough that chelsea decided to take the job at newman fashion.

Victor: Really? Huh. Well, that way, you can keep an eye on her, you know? And talking about surveillance, by the way, how’s it going with those videos that were sent to you? Who did that? Did you find out?

Adam: I’m fairly confident I know who it is.

Lily: Aw, so sad. You’re packing up our little interview studio. I thought we could get more practice in.

Billy: You don’t need any more of that.

Lily: Well, I really loved the wrap party.

Billy: Oh, yeah. Well, we got plenty of time for that. We will practice until perfection.

Lily: I thought we were perfect. What are you talking about? What’s, uh — what’s wrong?

Billy: Jack should be here any minute. I asked him to come over so we could discuss the plan with him, like we agreed.

Lily: Okay. Do you want me to make myself scarce? I can.

Billy: No. I would prefer you stay here, if that’s okay.

Lily: Sure.

[ Knock on door ]

Billy: [ Sighs ] Here we go.

Lily: Mm-hmm.

Billy: Hey there. Come on in.

Jack: If this is another pitch to get me to fund a bid for chanccomm, I haven’t changed my mind, and I don’t intend to.

Billy: Actually, this is something different altogether and something that lily and i both agree we should share with you.

Jack: Okay. What’s this about? Hi. So you’re the scientist here.

Phyllis: Um… wow, you didn’t — you didn’t have to get me anything.

[ Sighs ] Unless it’s one of those things that I left behind at your house and you wrapped it up as a gift. I mean, in that case, you really didn’t have to get me anything.

Nick: Uh…no. This is something I got for you awhile back, when we were still together. And it’s custom-made, so I can’t send it back.

Phyllis: Mm. Well, that is too bad.

Nick: Probably should have just held onto it, you know, until things were less weird between us.

Phyllis: Weird. I mean, that’s what I would have done. I would have, um… in fact, that’s what I did.

Nick: Are you saying you got me something, too?

Phyllis: Do you want to come see it?

Nate: Thank you.

Elena: So…there are some things that we may have to face if we live together.

Nate: Like?

Elena: Well, I’m not sure if you can handle living with someone who doesn’t like the smell of food cooking in the morning. It makes me nauseous. So I only keep cold breakfast foods in the house.

Nate: Oh, no! Guess I’m gonna have to go out if I want sausage and pancakes.

Elena: [ Chuckles ] Or you can do it when I’m on my morning run, which I haven’t been doing when we spend the night together, but I usually like to get out really early, which could also be annoying.

Nate: Good thing I’m a doctor who’s used to crazy hours.

Elena: I also don’t like to share closets. I like to keep everything orderly and color-coordinated. Is that something you can handle?

Nate: Well, uh, I don’t know. Guess I may have to clean out a closet or two just for you.

Elena: [ Chuckles ]

Nate: That might be tough.

Elena: Well, I should think that I’m worth it.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] You definitely are. And thank you for sharing this side of yourself with me. I guess I have to reciprocate in kind.

Elena: Okay.

Nate: If we were to live together, you have a right to know that I have an enormous baseball card collection.

Elena: [ Laughs ]

Nate: It comes with me wherever I go.

Elena: Ooh. That’s so cute.

Nate: You think my collection is cute?

Elena: No, no. I think it’s a ridiculous hobby. But it’s adorable that you don’t think I knew about it. I’ve seen your tower of boxes in the spare bedroom.

Nate: Okay, if you thought it was so ridiculous, why didn’t you say something?

Elena: Because I’m a polite person…and I like that you’re an open book.

Nate: There’s more.

Elena: Oh.

Nate: When no one’s around, I like to wear a homemade avocado mask. It’s the reason my skin stays so luminous.

Elena: [ Laughing ] Oh, my gosh. That explains so much!

[ Laughs ] Okay, so, would you mind making me one of these masks every now and again?

Nate: Definitely. But it’s not like you need one.

Elena: Okay. And maybe I can reciprocate by helping you organize your closets.

Nate: Oh, that’s very sweet of you, but, no, I have my own system.

Elena: No, you don’T. I’ve peeked inside your closets.

Nate: Yes, I do. Warm-weather clothes in the front, cold-weather clothes in the back.

Elena: That is not a system.

Nate: I always find what I’m looking for.

Elena: [ Laughs ] I suppose that’s all that matters.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] So, what do you think? Can a couple of goofballs like us be happy living under the same roof?

Elena: I guess we will have to see… because my answer is yes. I would love to live with you and your baseball cards and your avocado masks.

[ Laughs ]

Nate: Come here.

Elena: [ Laughs ]

Adam: Well, it occurred to me who might be sending the videos of billy, so I confronted the person, but they would neither confirm nor deny. But they did throw out the phrase “plausible deniability.”

Victor: So, they’re remaining anonymous for your sake — or so they want you to believe, right?

Adam: Well, I think they’re sincere. I think that their interests are aligned with newman media’S. But, uh, that’s probably all i should say at this point.

Victor: So, you expect me to trust you because you trust them?

Adam: Look, the point that we should focus on is that billy is unraveling right before our very eyes, okay? We didn’t force it, we didn’t contrive it, or we didn’t even arrange for it to be on video for posterity. We have him right where we want him, don’t we?

Victor: But that’s the point. We do. He’s no longer at chanccomm. We’ve publicly humiliated him. Isn’t that enough?

Adam: Billy is still out there running his mouth off to anybody who will listen that ashland locke committed fraud, despite chanccomm’s official retraction. If someone gives you an opportunity to discredit billy, we have to run with that. Why should we show mercy now?

Victor: Well, I can’t argue with that, although I suggest we proceed very carefully, okay? And I want to be kept in the loop.

Adam: Of course.

Billy: You asked me before what I plan to do now that jill has decided to sell chanccomm. And I have a plan, one that doesn’t require anything of you, no investment, nothing.

Jack: Okay. Sounds good so far.

Billy: Lily is the only one that knows about this, and she feels like it’s important to bring you in and give you a heads-up.

Jack: Does lily think that once I find out what you’re up to, maybe I’ll dissuade you from following through?

Lily: No, no, no. I’m actually behind billy on this one. But even though we both agree with the end goal, there’s some concerns we have that we think you should be aware of.

Jack: Okay. I’m listening. Did you know some deodorants may not last all day?

Abby: Can you believe it? Look at his sweet little face! Oh, my gosh, the expression. I can’t decide if he’s smiling or if he’s trying not to cry.

Devon: Can you send it to me, please? I want that picture.

Abby: Absolutely. Yeah, yeah. It’s the least I could do after letting us live-stream with you while we were in spain.

Devon: Oh, yeah.

Abby: It was such a powerful moment, chance seeing his son for the first time.

Chance: Yeah, it was like nothing I’ve ever experienced.

Devon: Well, hey, if I would have known what was going on, i would have combed his hair and put him in a nicer outfit, you know?

Amanda: Aw, no, I’m sure that chance thought that he was perfect just the way he was.

Chance: So perfect.

Abby: You know, I started showing chance the video diary that I made while he was gone.

Devon: Did you get to the entry yet where I made a cameo?

Abby: [ Laughs ]

Chance: No, I didn’t know there were special guests.

Abby: Yes, yes. You know, we shot it early in the pregnancy, and mariah and tessa were there, too.

Devon: Yeah. You can skip straight to them because there’s a reason why i stay behind the scenes.

Amanda: What? Now I am curious. I mean, should I get abby to send me a copy?

Devon: No! No, don’t do that. I was just being corny on it, talking about all the music that we played for dominic during the pregnancy and everything we’re gonna do together once he’s born.

Amanda: Aww, that’s so sweet.

Chance: Well, I’m sure I’ll get a kick out of it, man. I’m just really grateful that i got some glimpses of what i missed. You know, of course when abby started recording, she had no idea how long I’d be gone, so i got a lot of lost time to make up for.

Abby: Yeah.

Devon: Well, remember, though man, you also got a bunch of milestones that haven’t even happened yet, you know? You got his first steps.

Chance: Yeah.

Abby: First words.

Chance: Hey.

Abby: Yeah, wouldn’t surprise me if the first thing he said was “da-da,” and I am sure you’ll be there for that.

Phyllis: Um, I was debating on whether or not to give this to you. You know, I was kind of leaning against it.

Nick: So, what were you gonna do?& Just keep it wrapped up here forever?

Phyllis: No, I was thinking of giving it to summer and that she could give it to you. But, you know, since you have a gift for me, I don’t have a choice.

Nick: [ Sighs ] You know I’m gonna be able to tell if you’re just re-gifting something that you got from the office christmas party, right?

Phyllis: No. It’s not a re-gift. You’re gonna know it’s from me. It’s from somebody who knows you really well, so… this doesn’t have to be awkward, right?

Nick: Nah, I think we’re past that stage. And if we’re not, then we should be.

Phyllis: You want to go first?

Billy: Before I start, I just want to make it very clear and hope you realize just how upside down this whole public scandal has been. Victor and adam quite successfully made it look like i intentionally published an article — a made-up, phony article — about ashland locke, which I would not do for many reasons.

Jack: Yeah. I know that. We’ve covered all this. And the retraction that you published only reinforced their lie.

Lily: Well, we were forced to do that because of ashland’s impending lawsuit.

Billy: The irony of that is that we are now being sued for reckless disregard for the truth, which is the exact opposite of the actual truth. And I can’t let that perception stand.

Jack: Whoa, whoa, wait. I thought we were here to discuss how you can move forward from this mess.

Billy: We are, very much so, but I can’t move forward without reclaiming my dignity and my credibility.&

Jack: I realize it’s difficult for you to accept the fact that adam and victor won this round, but, look, even if you could get gaines to change his story —

Lily: No, no, no, we’re done dealing with gaines. Trust me — we learned our lesson.

Billy: The goal now is to expose newman media for the double-dealing backstabbers that they are, in essence, trick victor and adam into exposing themselves.

Jack: May I ask how you intend to do that?

Billy: Well, quite simple, actually. Give them exactly what they want on a silver platter. Make their darkest dreams come true. Of course, it won’t actually be true. But it won’t matter to them, and that is the point.

Jack: Okay, I’m still not clear on what you’re proposing.

Billy: They don’t care what lies or garbage they spew out into the world or the damage that it causes, as long as they get what they want.

Jack: Wait. That’s your plan? To give them some fake story and hope they run with it?

Billy: This is not just going to be some story. It’ll be a story that they will not be able to resist.

Jack: I am almost afraid to ask.

Billy: The tragic demise of billy abbott, the once-promising ceo who is now swallowed up in despair and addiction. They will eat it up with a spoon. And when the time is right, i will turn the tables and sue them.

Jack: What the hell — you’re not serious.

Phyllis: Do you want to open yours?

Nick: It’s a — a cologne with my name on it? Essence of nicholas?

Phyllis: Yeah. Um…I worked with a company, uh, on a fragrance that is customized. You know, it’s for you only. They have this whole questionnaire. You fill it out. Like, what’s your astrological sign? What’s your height, your hobbies? So, I don’t know. It just — I thought it would be nice, just, um… nobody else will have that scent. That’s yours.

Nick: You obviously put a lot of time and effort into this. Thank you.

Phyllis: Yeah. I worked with them for a few months on it.

Nick: You know, even if you hadn’t put your name on the tag, I would have known this is from you. I mean, you are literally the only person in my life that would do something like this for me.

Phyllis: [ Voice breaking ] I hope we never lose this.

Nick: What?

Phyllis: Our connection. I hope we never lose it. It’s hard to find someone who gets you. It’s hard to find that special bond with somebody.

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ] I knew you were gonna say that.

Amanda: Yeah, and devon is the ultimate baby whisperer. He figured everything out in the short time that dom was with us.

Chance: That’s good to know. You’ll have to tell me some of your secrets.

Abby: Hey, you’re gonna find your rhythm with the baby. But in the meantime, I can give you a few tricks that I’ve learned.

Chance: Please. I’m all ears. Come on.

[ Laughter ]

Abby: Okay, first things first — you have to have two binkies, one in his mouth and one in his tiny little hand. He just grips it. He’s a planner, just like mama. He has to have a backup binky. And he also loves it when I make this noise. He laughs every single time. You just have to go, “blb-blb-blb-blb-blb-blb!”

Devon: He does like that.

Chance: I can do that. Blb-blb-blb-blb-blb-blb!

Devon: He likes that a lot. You got it. You got it. Now, if you really want to just, like, put him down or get him relaxed to go to sleep, just play some music ’cause he loves it. He loves it so much. Anything with a good drumbeat. Max roach he likes a lot.

Abby: Ah, a jazz fan already? Alright.

Devon: Yeah, yeah. Also, too, if you whisper, like whisper little soothing hush sounds in his ears while he’s going to sleep, works well.

Abby: I’ll have to try that. Where’d you learn that?

Devon: Online, actually. Yeah, I found this parenting group that has a lot of great information for newbies. It’s really good. I’ll send you the link to it.

Abby: Yeah.

Devon: But you can’t follow all their advice ’cause I tried this one thing where I massaged his belly after he ate, and i swear he yelled at me after i did it, so…

[ Laughter ]

Abby: Well, I doubt that he has any complaints about you, devon.

Devon: Well…

Jack: Please tell me i misunderstood just now. It sounded like you said you’re going to fall apart just to mess with the newmans?

Billy: I wouldn’t exactly put it that way, but, yes, I will be hanging around some of my old haunts and visiting some of my old friends.

Jack: Bookies? Gamblers? Loan sharks?

Billy: If that’s how victor and adam choose to misinterpret this or misrepresent it, then… yes. Look, jack, that’s what they want to believe, okay? And I’m just gonna let them believe that. Of course I will be able to prove it opposite in court.

Jack: And how do you intend to do that?

Lily: Look, I had a lot of the same questions, but billy has actually thought this through. This will force victor and adam to admit that they tried to ruin his reputation.

Billy: You condone this? You were my last best hope, lily. I thought you of all people could talk him out of doing these dangerous things.

Billy: Jack, let me just be very clear that I did not want to tell you about this in the first place —

Jack: Why would you want to stay mired in this obsessive need to hurt victor and adam? You have other options! We would welcome you back at jabot with open arms. I’m sure lily would be thrilled to have you on board at chancellor. You could start over. This is how you vindicate yourself.

Billy: Jack, I think we both know that that is simply happy talk, okay? The reputation that victor and adam saddled me with is going to stay with me for the rest of my life — or until I can prove that they are the ones without any moral standard, that they are the ones motivated by greed and vengeance. It’s not me.

Jack: You don’t know that you can actually pull this off.

Billy: For the record, jack, I did not bring you here to get your permission or your approval. The plan is already in motion.

Jack: So, why did you bring me in on this now?

Billy: Because lily thought it would be cruel to let you hear the rumors and potentially believe them.

Jack: Well, thank you for that consideration for me. What about jill? What about johnny and katie? Did you think about them?

Lily: They’re going to boarding school after the holidays. They won’t be affected by any of this.

Jack: Wait, you are sending them away as part of this scheme?

Billy: No. That was victoria’s idea, but i believe it is the best one.

Lily: And jill is visiting the chancellor offices as part of the ceo hand-over.

Billy: I understand that ashley and traci will be in an out of town, and I don’t expect you to lie to them.

Jack: You’re damn right i won’T. I want no part of this.

Lily: Well, jack, can we at least trust you to keep quiet about all of this?

Jack: I don’t know why i would do that, lily.

Billy: Jack, let me be very clear that if you ruin my chance to make this right, I’m not gonna trust you with anything ever again. And I think you know I mean that.

Jack: [ Sighs ]

Billy: I don’t believe that this plan is as dangerous as you think it is. It will be carefully orchestrated and targeted to a very small, specific group.

Jack: You know what scares me the most about this? That certainty, that tone. It smacks of the same irrational overconfidence that has been at the root of your downfall time and again.

Billy: Well, I appreciate that, but I think this is my best chance to rebuild my damaged reputation.

Jack: I want to be wrong, billy. Boy, do I want to be wrong.

Nick: Yeah. That’s a great idea. I’m not sure what I’m doing yet, but I’ll make sure to make some time for that.

Jack: Phyllis. Nick. Good to see you both.

Nick: Hey, jack. Perfect timing. Phyllis was just telling me that summer wanted to do a video call with, like, harrison so it seems like we’re all opening presents together.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Nick: Would you be down for that?

Jack: I’d be delighted.

Nate: Yeah, uh, sort of. Elena and I have decided to move in together.

Devon: Oh, wow. Congratulations.

Amanda: That’s wonderful. Guys, come. Join us. Sit down. We are gonna need some champagne. Can I get a bottle of champagne?

Devon: Yeah. Man, I really couldn’t be happier for you two.

Lily: Are you regretting telling jack about the plan? I hope you’re not angry with me for suggesting it.

Billy: I’m not. The truth is, I am having second thoughts.

Lily: Really? You sounded so sure when you were defending your plan to him.

Billy: I’m not concerned about that. I still believe it’s gonna work. But I just don’t want to come across as a completely selfish jerk.

Lily: You? Never.

[ Chuckles ]

Billy: I understand this is gonna affect my family. But it’s also going to affect your family. I hope it doesn’t reach your kids, with them being out of state, but there’s nate, there’s devon, there’s your friends, your colleagues.

Lily: Yeah, I know. I know. I thought about that.

Billy: Nothing is more important to me than what we have together. Nothing is more important than you, not my reputation, not my career, none of it. If this is too much for you… you just got to say the word, and I’ll drop it. Did you know some deodorants may not last all day?

Lily: Yeah, I mean, I have to admit I don’t love the idea of causing my family and jill unnecessary pain. But I can tell them that I’m not worried about you and that i don’t believe the rumors. I mean, that wouldn’t be lying.

Billy: No. But they’re gonna say you’re in denial or you’re enabling addictive behavior.

Lily: Well, hopefully this will all resolve quickly and i can clear things up. Or I can do what you did with jack and I can choose a couple people that I trust and tell them what’s going on. Either way, I am behind you 100%.

Billy: I will justify your faith in me. I promise.

Lily: I know. And, look, don’t get me wrong. I really wish that you would drop this whole thing and come to work with me at chancellor. But I know you. And I know you’re not gonna be able to rest until you clear your name. So, when you do, I will put on a full-court press to recruit you.

Billy: And I will be ready. In fact, I’ll be looking forward to it and the full-court press. I hope you know how grateful i am for your love and your support.

Amanda: Mm. You know, you guys just missed abby and chance.

Elena: Oh, that’s too bad. I would have loved to have seen baby dominic. He’s probably gotten so much bigger since thanksgiving.

Devon: Oh, yeah. He was actually back at home with the nanny, but he has gotten pretty big. He sat up on his own for the first time just the other day.

Elena: Impressive.

Devon: Yeah.

Nate: How is chance doing? This transition’s got to be a bit of a culture shock for him. You know, suddenly having to redefine himself and his career? It’s not an easy thing to do.

Devon: No, it’s not, and, you know, he’s adjusting still. But I’m sure he’ll figure it out.

Abby: I hope it was okay that I invited devon and amanda to join us at society.

Chance: Yeah. What are you talking about? I love their company.

Abby: You just — you seemed a little quiet.

Chance: Well, you know, you were all talking about dominic, and I just haven’t spent as much time with him as the rest of you.

Abby: Hey. You’re gonna make your own memories and have stories with him soon enough.

Chance: Yeah, I hope so.

[ Doorbell rings ] Daddy!

Victor: Hi, sweetheart.

Chance: Oh, I can’t complain. No complaints. Abby’s taking real good care of me.

Victor: I bet you she is. She’s very happy to have you home, you know. Hope you take all the appropriate time to recover from your ordeal.

Chance: Yes, sir, that’s the plan.

Victor: So, what are your plans now?

Jack: After talking to billy, I’m worried he’s headed down the wrong road again.

Phyllis: Oh, wow. I know what you’re talking about — drinking and gambling, right?

Jack: I’m concerned billy’s about to make the same series of mistakes.

Adam: [ Clears throat ] Sorry. I don’t, uh, mean to eavesdrop. But I hope you know it was not my intention to push billy over the edge.

Jack: I don’t know who you think you’re talking to. I’m gonna be the last person to buy your excuses. We both know what you did to billy and why. Motrin works fast to stop pain where it starts.

Amanda: You know, abby and chance must be so relieved that the targets of the investigation have been apprehended.

Devon: Yeah. I think we all are. That’s one less thing to worry about, you know.

Amanda: Yeah. And I hope it’ll ease chance’s mind knowing that all of his hard work has paid off. I think it might make him feel a little less guilty for leaving his family behind, you know?

Devon: Yeah.

Amanda: Tell me —

Devon: Hmm?

Amanda: What can I do to ease your mind, hmm?

Devon: Ease my mind?

Amanda: Yeah.

Devon: Nothing. I’m — I’m — I’m good. I got to see dominic today, so that was great.

Amanda: Yeah, but these short visits — they’re not cutting it for you, are they? Listen. You know, abby and chance — they are so grateful for everything that you’ve done for dominic. Have you ever thought about just asking them for a little one-on-one time with him?

Devon: Yeah. I have. It’s crossed my mind, but i don’t know how they would react to something like that, you know, ’cause chance is already struggling. So me pressing for more time with his kid might be the last thing he needs — to overstep into his territory, you know?

Amanda: Well, you’ll never know unless you ask.

Chance: No one’s pressuring me to come back right away.

Victor: Mm.

Chance: But my spot is waiting for me at the gcpd.

Victor: Ahh. I remember when you joined the gcpd. You did that because you wanted to be closer to home, right?

Chance: Yes, sir.

Victor: While we were here, we saw abby go through the ordeal of thinking that you had died in that explosion. I mean, it was a terrible thing to see. She was devastated.

Chance: Yeah, I’ll always regret putting her through that.

Victor: Now, I don’t need to tell you that being a cop is a dangerous business.

Chance: Well, trust me, I’ve handled much worse.

Victor: It would be unfair to her and everyone else if she had to go through something like that again, alright?

Billy: Oh, my goodness. Look at you. You look amazing.

Lily: Thank you. So, you ready for this?

Billy: Yeah, I am. Now that jack has been informed, the groundwork has been laid, it’s time to take this plan to the next step…and to the very place where everyone who knows my history is expecting me to go.

Adam: I am sure that you are only getting billy’s side of the story.

Jack: I know for a fact billy never intended to publish that piece about ashland locke, a story that very likely is true.

Adam: Mm. Well, I’m afraid you’re gonna have to take that up with ashland.

Victor: You and victor set a trap for my brother. You knew how this would turn out. Billy has children. They’re victor’s grandchildren. Did that even come up, or is that a concern to you at all?

Adam: Okay, what about locke’s child? I mean, harrison is your grandson. I don’t see you rushing out to put his interests first.

Phyllis: Well, you and victor have ashland’s best interests at heart? Really? All this loyalty — where’d that come from? Give me a break.

Adam: We did what we had to do to put the family business first.

Jack: Bull. There’s no way you will ever convince me there was a legitimate business reason for doing what you did. This was revenge, plain and simple.

Adam: For what?

Jack: Don’t play dumb with me. You and victor never forgave billy for the exposé he did on you.

Adam: Look, I don’t owe you an explanation for anything.

Phyllis: What is going on between billy and adam?

Jack: Warfare. What else? Constant, endless warfare.

Sally: So, you’re asking if i know who’s been sending you the anonymous videos starring billy abbott acting like a jerk in public?

Adam: Do you?

Sally: You know, I can’t help but feel like your question is a wee bit…pointed.

Adam: What? In what sense?

Sally: Well, do I know who’s been sending the videos, meaning am I the one doing it? That’s really what you’re asking, isn’t it?

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Lily: Hey, you.

Billy: Hey. What’s going on?

Lily: Oh, you know. Work, work, and more work. I’m memorizing the bios of everyone on the chancellor board of directors. Jill’s setting up a get-to-know-you meeting, so I’m just prepping for it.

Billy: Sounds like you could use a break, and I have just the thing.

Lily: Uh-oh. Should I be worried?

Billy: [ Laughs ] Not at all. But I think you should come home as soon as you can.

Lily: Okay. Well, my brain is a bit fried, so maybe taking a break is a good idea.

Billy: Well, what I have planned will definitely help.

Rey: I just love seeing you so happy.

Chelsea: Oh, yes. My mom was smitten, so much so, in fact, that she was a lot more pleasant when rey was around and a lot more cranky when he left.

Rey: How are you feeling?

Chelsea: I’m good. You know, it’s — it’s a bit unnerving being back in genoa city.

Sharon: Well, I’m not surprised you’d feel that way. You’ve been gone for a while, and you were in quite a bit of turmoil before you left, transitioning out of the hospital.

Chelsea: Yeah. It was easier for me to put everything behind me when I was in another state, focused on taking care of my mom. But now I’m back and I’m in a penthouse and I feel like there are just reminders everywhere i turn.

Rey: Well, that’s only natural, right?

Chelsea: Well, whether it is or isn’t, I’m not certain I’m gonna stay past the holidays. And I’m sure there are several people in this town who would be very happy if I didn’t stay in genoa city.

Sally: Why would you jump to that conclusion, that I am the one behind all this?

Adam: Hmm. I mean, call me crazy, but that seems like something you might do.

Sally: Hmm.

Adam: Following billy around, gathering intel, and then sending the proof straight to me.

Sally: That’s the old sally, you know, someone who goes to extremes, lives on the edge. But I have turned over a new leaf.

Adam: Hmm. I see.

Sally: What? You don’t believe me?

Adam: I just know since you’ve worked here, you’ve mentioned a few times that my feud with billy worries you. And I did kind of ask you to spy on him.

Sally: Yes, but then you turned right around and told me to forget that you said anything.

Adam: True. Still, there’s a part of you that likes to go rogue. I mean, you will follow through with a plan whether or not anybody else is on board.

Sally: Well, that is called independent thinking, a trait you should value, given that’s how I put newman fashion on the map.

Adam: I do value it. Very much. But not when it goes against my best interest.

Sally: So, if I were to admit that the mystery videographer were me, how would you react? Because logic dictates that an anonymous spy who’s on your side and wants you to succeed is working in your best interest.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Billy?

Billy: Hey. Welcome home. I opened up some champagne. Pour yourself a glass and relax. I’ll be right down.

Lily: Oh. Okay. So, what’s with all of this, uh, gear?

Billy: I thought we could do a little role-playing.

Lily: [ Chuckling ] Oh, boy. Okay. What’d you have in mind?

Billy: [ Chuckles ] Don’t worry. I promise you we’re gonna have fun.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Okay.

Billy: How’s the champagne?

Lily: Mm. Pretty good.

[ Camera shutter clicks ] Sweet pillows of softness!

Lily: Well, this is quite the romantic gesture.

Billy: Well, I think it is, but maybe not quite in the way that you’re thinking. But you are now the ceo of chancellor industries, okay? You are stepping into the spotlight big time, and every major publication is gonna want to do a profile on you.

Lily: I know. The pr chief mentioned it, but I’ve just been too busy to even worry about self-promotion.

Billy: Ohh, see, now, that is a mistake.

Lily: Is it?

Billy: Yes. Your image is about to be synonymous with chancellor industries, okay? You need to be prepared.

Lily: Are you worried I’m not prepared?

Billy: Um… I wouldn’t exactly go that far. I mean, you have experience being the face of a brand, like you were with brash & sassy, and of course you’ve done many interviews with your role at chanccomm, but this is a whole new league, okay? And I am going to be your personal coach.

Lily: Oh. I see.

Billy: Mm-hmm. So, a little bit of practice, maybe a new headshot, and you will be ready to go. Sound good?

Lily: Yeah. Um, this is very generous of you, but, uh, do you have the right qualifications for this?

Billy: How dare you question my qualifications? I have years of media experience and a halfway decent camera, okay? But most importantly, you, my dear, are comfortable with me. So time to let yourself shine.

Lily: Ugh. Okay. I — [ Sighs ] Do you really want to do this? I came here to relax, and, honestly, this sounds like a lot of work.

Billy: Oh, come on, now. Okay, listen to me for one second, okay? You have been amazing with me in the last little while. And I am so grateful for that. But this is about you. You’re about to embark on a major transition in your career, and I want to support you in it, okay? So it’s time to focus on you.

Adam: Well, if you were to confess to gathering intel on billy…

[ Door closes ] …I’d probably say, “thank you, but cut it out.”

Sally: Because…?

Adam: You’re putting yourself in a tricky position.

Sally: That’s my favorite kind.

Adam: You run the risk he’s gonna spot you. He’s gonna figure it out, get angry, take action against you, which, at best, will be uncomfortable and, at worst…

Sally: Well, I think if my cover were to get blown, I would be able to protect myself, provided that I actually was the spy. See, I actually know the abbotts, and when someone crosses them, they are all bark and no bite.

Adam: Ohh. Yeah, that might be true for jack and kyle, but, um, billy lacks their moral compass, especially when he’s on a downward spiral. He’s even gotten violent before.

Sally: Oh, so you’re worried that it’ll come to bodily harm? I’m flattered that you care.

Adam: Well, of course. I don’t want to see you get hurt. I care about the safety of all newman media employees.

Sally: Mm-hmm. Right. Yes. ‘Cause I’m no different than the guys that work in it.

Adam: Exactly.

Sally: So you’ve kissed them on multiple occasions, too?

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Okay. Touché. Um…but I wouldn’t want them to run afoul of billy, either.

Sally: Which I may or may not be doing. But isn’t it better for you not to know the truth?

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Plausible deniability.

Sally: I mean, it’s much easier for you to maintain your journalistic integrity and not reveal your sources when you’re honestly in the dark.

Adam: You do make an excellent point.

Sally: But now my only question that really matters, in my mind, is this — will the information that you’ve received help you in your battle?

Adam: I’d say it’s a good start.

Chloe: Sorry to barge in on you, but I need you to come with me now.

Sally: Is there a problem?

Chloe: Just the opposite. Chelsea is ready to talk with you, and she’s over at crimson lights. We have to head over there.

Sally: Great! Yeah. I’ve been dying to meet her. Does this mean that she’s, uh, decided to come on board after all, that she’s no longer on the fence?

Adam: Well, I hope, between the two of you, that are able to convince chelsea to take the position.

Sally: Yeah. Well, you know I’m a team player. So, if you want chelsea at newman fashion, I will do whatever it takes to win her over.

Sharon: For the record, chelsea, I bear you no ill will. I’m sorry for what happened to you after your stroke and that you were pushed psychologically to the point where you imagined that adam and I were having an affair, and that sent you over the edge.

Chelsea: I realize that doesn’t excuse my actions. I know I apologized to you both before I left for minnesota, but I want to do it again.

Sharon: I appreciate that.

Chelsea: Hell, while we’re at it, I mean, I should be grateful that you even let me into crimson lights again, after i injured you in this very establishment just a few years ago. So, I’m sorry for that, too.

Sharon: Apology accepted.

Rey: And as you know, i forgave you for what you tried to do to me last summer. Like sharon said, you were in a bad way. But I saw you trying to work through that. And you seem like you’re in a better place.

Chelsea: I really am. Absolutely. And I’ve completed my therapy, and I feel like I’ve made a full recovery.

Sharon: Well, self-assessment is a very good thing, but —

Chelsea: Oh, no, and the courts agree. And being with connor, I think, is really gonna improve my outlook.

Sharon: I’m sure connor is really happy to have his mother home.

Chelsea: I’m grateful that you’re both willing to give me another chance.

Rey: ‘Tis the season.

Chelsea: [ Chuckles ]

Sharon: So, what’s next for you?

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] I don’t know. [ Chuckles ] I think that’s why I’m on the fence about whether or not to stay in genoa city. I feel like life has just gone on without me and I’m not sure where I fit in anymore.

Rey: Well, give it some time. I’m sure you’re gonna figure it out.

Chelsea: Yeah, I suppose. I mean, chloe’s giving me the hard sell to come work for her. I have to admit, I admire what she’s been able to accomplish with sally spectra.

Sharon: Are you a fan of sally’s work?

Chelsea: Mm, I’m more familiar with her reputation than her actual designs. But I have to admit, that wedding dress she designed for victoria was quite spectacular. I’m actually meeting her here in a couple minutes to see if we’re compatible.

Rey: Well, I hope that goes well.

Chelsea: I mean, you remember, sharon. You worked with chloe and me. These kind of collaborations can become quite fraught. You have to have the right chemistry. You have to spark off each other creatively.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Sharon: Yes. Well, sally tends to set off sparks wherever she goes.

Chloe: Hi. I hope we’re not interrupting.

Sharon: No, no, not at all.

Chloe: Chelsea lawson, this is sally spectra. And I hope this is the beginning of a fashion dynasty.

Sally: I am delighted to finally meet you face-to-face. Serena: It’s my 3:10

Chloe: Thank you so much.

Rey: Well, I’m glad to see chelsea’s doing well.

Sharon: Yeah. She seems grounded, optimistic.

Rey: Yeah. Not sure about her plans. Though spending time with her son could help with that.

Sharon: Well, if she wants to be a part of connor’s life, she’s going to have to stay here. Adam has full custody. And the boy’s family is here.

Rey: Yeah, I just hope being around adam doesn’t undo any progress she’s already made. I’d hate to see it all fall apart for her again.

Sharon: Well, adam and chelsea are going to have to co-parent and possibly work together, too. Depending on what she decides with her career, they’re gonna have to deal with each other on a daily basis.

Sally: When I was designing victoria’s wedding dress, i looked to your bridal work for inspiration. I know that I will learn a lot from working with you, and i think we can do great things together.

Chelsea: Thank you. I was impressed with the coup you pulled off, convincing victoria to wear your creation.

Sally: Well, it didn’t take that much convincing, if you want to know the truth.

Chelsea: I like your plans for newman fashion. Chloe tells me you plan to be the on-camera talent for the platform’s video content?

Sally: Yeah, I’m practically exploding with ideas. But I would kill for your input.

Chelsea: I’m sure the camera’s gonna love you, sally. You’ve got a real over-the-top energy.

Chloe: Having you head up the team with me would be a dream come true. I mean, the three of us, with newman media’s deep pockets and adam’s hands-off philosophy, I mean, we could really build something extraordinary.

Chelsea: Well, as I said, I’m not certain I’m coming to newman fashion. In fact, I’m not sure I’ll even be staying in genoa city.

Chloe: [ Chuckles ] Okay, um, let me remind you that this platform was built — I created it — for you. I mean, you have this incredible opportunity just waiting for you to jump right into. So let’s stop talking about leaving town and start thinking this through. Adam isn’t going to let you leave with connor. I think it’s time to admit to ourselves that you are here for the foreseeable future.

Rey: You know, the combination of chelsea working with newman media and co-parenting is gonna force her to spend a lot of time with adam. And, yes, the guy’s at his best when he’s with connor, trying to be good parents. It brings out his humanity. But ever since he went after billy again, I’ve seen the signs of the old adam. And if he and chelsea butt heads over any reason, I’m afraid it’s gonna make her have a major setback.

Sharon: Well, co-parenting without conflict isn’t easy.

Rey: Devil’s advocate? Look at you and nick. All the challenges you’ve faced with faith this year, you were able to bring her through the other side, safe and sound, and your friendship remained intact.

Sharon: And I couldn’t have done it without you. You’re my rock. You’ve been a really great husband to me and a great stepdad. How did I get so lucky?

Billy: You, as well, ms. Winters. Um, I got to be honest. I’m a little bit nervous. I’ve heard a lot about you. You’re clearly a bright, intelligent woman, but you’re strikingly beautiful. So, if you don’t mind, I’m just gonna start with a couple softballs to get us both warmed up.

Lily: Okay.

Billy: First of all, what did you have for breakfast this morning?

Lily: You already know what i had for breakfast this morning.

Billy: Excuse me?

Lily: Ugh. Okay. Um, I had yogurt and granola and coffee, lots of coffee.

Billy: Okay. Great. Reasonably healthy. That’s good. Um, take me through a morning. What time do you get to the office?

Lily: I usually get to my desk at around 8:00 A.M.

Billy: Hmm. Would you consider yourself a morning person?

Lily: Yes, I think, you know, raising twins has trained me for that.

Billy: Right, probably taught you how to multitask, I would guess.

Lily: Oh, yeah, ’cause when you have one crying and the other one screaming, running through the house, I think it helps prepare you for running a corporation.

Billy: I’m sorry. Are you saying that executives are like toddlers?

Lily: Actually, sometimes, yes. My co-ceo at chanccomm —

[Sighs] He was — he was a handful.

Billy: Yeah, I’ve heard about him. I’m sure you’re glad to be rid of him.

Lily: No, actually. I really miss working with him. His, um, qualities made things very interesting and exciting.

Billy: Okay. Um, let’s talk about your leadership philosophy. Do you see yourself as a disrupter or a, um, stabilizer or maybe a turnaround manager? What would you say?

Lily: I would say that, uh — all of the above. I think I’m a very flexible leader. I can kind of change to whatever the situation needs. Um, so, you know, whether it’s shaking up the status quo or, um, you know, being there for my team and showing that I’m an advocate for them.

Billy: That’s a great answer. What about your role models? Do you have any?

Lily: Yes. Um, katherine chancellor, obviously, uh, jill abbott, and my father, neil winters.

Billy: I’ve heard nothing but great things about all of them. I’m sure your father would be extremely proud of you. If you don’t mind, I’m gonna ask a little bit more of a difficult question.

Lily: Well, I’m sure your readers might wonder if I have the right qualifications for this job, to which I would say that I think one of my key strengths is managing people. You know, I think — I spend also hours of listening to thousands of chancellor employees so that I can build trust with them and reassure them that I can lead them through whatever challenge may arise.

Billy: Great job.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: Now, um, that’s not what I was actually gonna ask, of course.

Lily: Okay. Sorry. I got ahead of myself.

Billy: It’s okay. No worries.

Lily: Please, mr. Wonder, ask me the hard questions. I love them.

Billy: Okay.

[ Clears throat ] How much do you love the man you’re with?

Lily: Oh, well, actually, it’s really funny you ask me that. I just did a 360 review of his skills and qualities, and i would say that his scores are off the charts. Don’t settle for products that give you a sort-of white smile.

Chloe: It’s impossible.

Chelsea: I told you. I haven’t made up my mind yet. I need more information before i make a decision. I can’t become a partner in your creative collaboration based on a hard sell and some well-meaning guilt trips. I need to know who I’m getting into bed with.

Chloe: Are you serious? You know me better than anyone. If you can’t trust me, who can you trust?

Chelsea: [ Sighs ]

Sally: You know what? Sounds like you two need to hash this out. I’m gonna give you guys some privacy.

Chelsea: No. Stay. The truth is, I trust chloe. That’s not the issue. There’s actually just one thing I need in order to decide.

Sally: What’s that?

Chelsea: Some honest answers. From you.

Rey: Looks like quite the summit meeting.

Sharon: That is a lot of fashion designers at one table.

Rey: You ever miss working in the fashion industry?

Sharon: I was never a designer, and while I am curious what chelsea’s next chapter might be… you know what? I’m happy with my life right now and I studied really hard to become a therapist and I enjoy it.

Rey: I know you do. I was just teasing.

Sharon: Besides, selling a latte to sally is about as much time as I would want to spend with her.

Rey: Yeah. She worries me, too. I mean, chelsea taking that job with sally in the mix feels like trouble. I could never see those two seeing eye to eye.

Chelsea: You can compliment and flatter with the best of them. And that may work with some people.

Sally: But not you.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] I’m sure you know all about my past, just like I know all about yours. Running away from los angeles in disgrace, all your troubles with phyllis, summer, lauren, not to mention your doomed — or should I say botched — relationship with jack.

Chloe: Aww, chelsea…

Sally: Wow! I did not realize I was such hot topic in minnesota. How exactly did you become such an expert on me?

Chelsea: I have my sources.

Sally: Yeah, you must have gone through considerable effort to get the goods on me.

Chelsea: I wanted to make sure I knew who I was potentially getting into business with.

Sally: Well, then if you’ve done your research, then you must know that I have tons of great ideas for newman fashion.

Chelsea: I am impressed with your ideas. I am. I’m just left wondering, how are you not the biggest liability for any company, especially ours?

Sally: Yeah. I mean, someone could probably say the same thing about you. I mean, I wouldn’t, but I doubt anyone but your best friend would hire you right now.

Chelsea: Are you deflecting because you’re scared to answer the question?

Sally: [ Sighs ] Have I made tons of mistakes? Yeah. Tons of them. Along with some pretty powerful enemies, mainly because I’ve spent my entire life in defense mode, fighting to protect what’s mine. Case in point. It is a constant struggle, which I’m sure you understand because, yes, you are right, I do know all about your past.

Chloe: Okay. So, maybe we should focus on the present.

Sally: Whether or not you want to admit it, chelsea, you and I are a lot alike. Everything that we have ever longed for in life always seems just out of reach. So we have learned to do whatever it takes to level the playing field. I’m not gonna apologize for that because it’s how I survive. And if you think that that makes me a liability in your eyes, then so be it. But know this — that hunger and that drive and that determination is the energy that I plan to pour into newman fashion to make it a success. I have something to prove to the rest of the world, and this is where I’m gonna do it. Any more questions?

Chelsea: Uh, no, not right now. I’m actually quite impressed.

Chloe: Okay. So, chelsea, what’s it gonna be? Are you in, or are you out?

Billy: Well, that was great. I think we’re good. I think we have enough for our profile on the new ceo of chancellor industries.

Lily: Great. Okay. Well, it was a pleasure speaking with you.

Billy: I’m sorry. We’re not done yet. You can’t have a profile without a killer photo to go along with it.

Lily: Oh. Okay. Photo?

Billy: Mm-hmm.

Lily: [ Sighs ]

[ Camera shutter clicks ]

Billy: Oh, that’s amazing. Yes.

Lily: Oh, gosh. Okay. How’d I do?

Billy: You did fantastic. I mean, you’re a natural. Have you ever thought about modeling?

Lily: Oh, ha-ha.

[ Laughs ] No. That was fun. It was a good distraction. Thank you.

Billy: You’re welcome, and I’m glad you had a little bit of fun at least.

Lily: Yeah, it was, but also productive. I know people are gonna wonder how I went from being in prison to running a corporation, so I’m glad you made me practice. I need a good answer.

Billy: A dazzling answer. Good is for amateurs.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, I know people are gonna wonder if I’m up to the task, and my goal is to change their mind. And I think I can.

Billy: Well, you just proved to me that you can handle any question anyone throws at you.

Lily: I know that I can excel at this job.

Billy: Mm-hmm.

Lily: I wouldn’t have taken it otherwise. But knowing that you’re behind me makes all the difference.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] That… that is fantastic.

Chelsea: Sally and chloe convinced me it’s too good an opportunity to pass up.

Adam: [ Inhales sharply ] Well, they are right. You’ll be a valuable asset. You’re far and away the best designer I’ve ever known. Welcome aboard.

Chelsea: Thank you.

Adam: I’ll, um — I’ll have business affairs draft up a contract as soon as you and chloe work out the details.

Chelsea: Perfect. Well, I should get going. I have to pick up connor from that party. Uh, you know, I would love to find a time to have that conversation we discussed.

Adam: Um…sure.

Chelsea: Great. And in the meantime, um, your son and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Adam: Well, give connor my love.

Chelsea: I will.

Sally: Can I talk to you about something?

Adam: Um…sure.

Chloe: You know what? I’m gonna walk you out. I’ll help you go over the deal.

Chelsea: Sure. Sounds great.

Adam: What do you think you’re doing?

Billy: Excuse me. Are you laughing at my art?

Lily: Well, I mean, they’re so bad.

Billy: I never claimed to be a real photographer.

Lily: I mean, look at this. I’m barely in the frame, your finger is in the photo, and they’re blurry. They’re terrible.

Billy: Okay. Alright. At least now I know what I’m gonna get you for your next gift — a real photo shoot with a professional photographer.

Lily: Oh, that’s a wonderful idea, studly. Can I call you studly?

Billy: I’d be offended if you didn’T.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Well, cheers.

Billy: Thank you. Cheers. Mm.

Lily: So, I actually have a serious question for you now.

Billy: Okay. It’s only fair that we switch roles. Lay it on me.

Lily: Are you gonna tell jack about your plan to trick adam into thinking that you’re drinking and gambling again?

[ Door closes ]

Chelsea: Can I get you anything? Snack? A drink?

Chloe: Maybe later. You said yes! I mean, there is so much work to do, and I’m just so relieved that you’re willing to work with sally. I’m proud of myself for hiring her and giving her a second chance, and I saw that resonated with you. But right now my main focus is getting your input on what you think about the fashion platform, what are your ideas. So, how soon do you think you can start?

Chelsea: Sally created the first big buzz for newman fashion. Is that gonna get to her head? Is she gonna be willing to take orders from me?

Chloe: I mean, well, we haven’t discussed it yet —

Chelsea: Chloe, you sold me on a leadership team consisting of two people — you and me. Is this gonna turn into a triad?

Chloe: No. No, of course not.

Chelsea: Well, does sally know that? Because she’s ambitious. She’s run her down design house. Are we gonna have to be looking over our shoulder to make sure she’s not trying to muscle in past us? I want to know. How exactly do you plan to keep this woman in check?

Chloe: When sally burned her last bridge with lauren, i offered a helping hand. And since that day, she has been working her tail off. And what’s more, she’s grateful. I really don’t think that she’s planning any coups. I was also very clear that the plan was always to bring you on board as a partner. Yes, she created a cool wedding dress, but she works for me, which means that she will work for us.

Chelsea: And I think that would change in a heartbeat if sally has her way.

Chloe: [ Sighs ] You just met her. I think you’re making a lot of assumptions.

Chelsea: I know the type. Of course sally needs a second chance. It’s probably because she’s made enemies everywhere she’s gone. She’s out for number one. She’s not gonna stop until she gets to the top, and my theory is she already has a plan. And it mostly likely involves adam. What sort of dynamic have you noticed between the two of them?

Chloe: There is no dynamic. Adam is her boss. She gets it. She’s not about to overstep.

Chelsea: Good. ‘Cause that’s a boundary i wouldn’t want to see breached.

Sally: I assumed that you’d want me to debrief you on our meeting with chelsea. I have to admit, I’m pretty proud of myself for winning her over.

Adam: Was she that hard to convince?

Sally: Chelsea is — how shall I put this? — Quite strong-willed.

Adam: [ Laughs ] Uh…indeed.

Sally: She has some obvious concerns about working with me. I get it. But I think that we’re a lot alike, and I predict that we are going to get along well.

Adam: Is that really all you wanted to say? ‘Cause I hope you didn’t stay behind to make some to chelsea or mark some imaginary territory.

Sally: Ouch.

Adam: Look, I don’t want any trouble, okay? Chelsea’s been through enough. She’s connor’s mother. So any kind of drama at newman fashions, I want it in the work and not around the office.

Sally: And as for that matter that we discussed earlier, i hope you continue to get useful and pertinent information from your secret investigator.

Adam: I do, too.

Billy: I took what you said before to heart, and I think you’re right. As irritated as jack’s gonna be, I think I need to tell him the truth — that his screw-up brother is not actually screwing up this time. I’ve heard jack far too many times, and I don’t need to unnecessarily make him suffer again just for my plan to get back at adam.

Lily: I am really, really happy to hear you say that.

Billy: I’m actually grateful that you brought it up. Thank you.

Lily: And, look, I still worry about your plan ’cause a lot can go wrong, but you’ve shown me over and over how much you believe in me. And once I start this job, I’m gonna need you by my side more than ever.

Billy: No place I’d rather be.

Lily: And as much as you believe in me, I believe in you.

Billy: It’s gonna be a wild ride.

Lily: It certainly is.

Connor: I can’t believe it! Everything’s exactly the same as the last time I saw it.

Chelsea: It’s good to be back, isn’t it?

Connor: It’s the best.

Adam: Well, you have two homes. You can stay here sometimes with your mom and the rest of the time at the ranch with me.

Connor: Does that mean we’ll get a tree for here, too?

Chelsea: You know, I hadn’t really thought about it yet.

Connor: It’s not christmas without a tree. We have to.

Adam: Well, your granddad, he always has a giant one. He always does.

Connor: This is going to be the coolest christmas ever. Not because of the trees and presents, but because mom is finally at home again.

Chelsea: Seeing you is the best part. You are the greatest gift. Oh! [ Laughs ]

Adam: Yeah, is it as bouncy as you remember?

Connor: Yeah. You know what else I remember? Pizza and movie nights. First one, I chose the movie, but dad burned dinner so we had to order out for pizza.

Chelsea: Yes, and we all fell asleep before the movie ended.

Adam: [ Laughs ] That was — it was — it was so much fun.

Connor: I’ll never forget that. We were all together. We were a real family. It was the best, wasn’t it?

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Chloe: Sally? What the hell are you doing?

Noah: Alright, I know we are a week away from christmas, but why should that stop me from giving you an early gift?

Mariah: Ooh, what did you get me?

Noah: Actually, I was talking to tessa. Sorry, you’ll have to wait just like everyone else.

Noah: That’s my favorite part. You don’t like it?

Mariah: Well, what if we tried a different color?

Mariah: Well, I know that you are the artistic genius here, but it doesn’t hurt to have another set of eyes.

Noah: Depends on the eyes.

Adam: Well, I’ll take it to the ranch. I’ll pump it up for you.

Connor: Cool.

Chelsea: [ Chuckles ] Oh, the energy that kid has amazes me.

[ Sighs ] But it’s nice to see him so happy.

Adam: Well, like I said earlier, he, um — he missed you.

Chelsea: You handled that well. Managing his expectations about the three of us.

Adam: Well, the most important thing is he knows that both of us love him and that’ll never change, no matter what.

Chelsea: I completely agree. It’s strange being back here.

Adam: Part of the reason i moved to the ranch. Just too many memories.

Chelsea: And which memories were the hardest to handle? What we had…or what it turned into?

Tessa: No, mnh-mnh. No! I am not doing it. I’m not gonna choose sides.

Noah: I’m sorry, I’m sorry. It was cruel. I shouldn’t have put you in that position. I was just messing with you guys.

Mariah: What? That — that was a joke? The big eyeball with the blue splotches? Are you — are you kidding me?

Noah: Yeah, I just added in those elements ’cause I knew one or both of you would hate it, and I wanted to see your reaction.

Tessa: [ Laughs ] Noah! That’s so wrong.

Noah: I had to see how passionate you were about the work.

Tessa: [ Laughs ]

Mariah: Unforgivable. Do you think da vinci would do that or ansel adams?

Noah: Oh, you think I’m that good, huh?

Mariah: Oh, that’s very funny.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Tessa: You know what? It was actually was funny. It was nice to see you so invested. You were about to go to war with a world-famous artist just to protect my image.

Mariah: Anytime you need me to take this guy down a notch, I’m your gal.

Noah: Oh, I’d like to see you try.

Mariah: Oh, anytime, anywhere, buddy.

[ Laughs ]

Faith: Is this a private debate or can anyone join in?

Mariah: Oh, faith, thank goodness.

Noah: We are having creative differences.

Tessa: And you’ll stay out of it if you know what’s good for you.

Faith: Done.

Noah: You must be moses.

Moses: Yeah.

Faith: Moses, this is my brother noah.

Noah: It’s nice to meet you.

Moses: You too. Faith has shown me some of your work.

Noah: Ah, what’d you think?

Moses: Oh, I loved it. Pretty cool stuff.

Mariah: Made by somebody so incredibly uncool, it’s a mystery.

Noah: Oh, that’s very funny. I’ll get back to you. So what are you guys up to?

Moses: Oh, just hanging out.

Noah: You must be a saint. Last time I hung out with faith, she hogged all the popcorn at the movies, ate all of my fries at lunch —

Faith: Wait, never happened.

Noah: Will you two back me up on this?

Tessa: I do recall a couple incidents of brownie thievery.

Faith: I did not.

Tessa: Mm, well, it was at this very table, hmm? Remember? We ordered two brownies, fresh from the oven — perfect, fudgy, delicious. I go up to order drinks, I come back, and one is gone and the other has a bite taken out of it.

Faith: Oh. Yeah, maybe that did happen.

Noah: The truth.

Faith: But I was hungry and it was so warm and so good.

Tessa: Well, I swore that very day that I would never leave a snack unattended with faith around.

Moses: I had no idea.

Faith: I am not that bad, really.

Mariah: Hey, faith gives as much as she gets. She always shares her tips with the baristas when she works here. She’s an amazing sister, and I’m very lucky.

Tessa: Well, your little sister is a snack destroyer.

[ Laughter ]

Faith: You two are killing me. Mariah, you are so protective. And, tessa, you are going for the jugular. You two are like the super-sweet and corny parents that you always see in the sitcoms.

Noah: You know, in the sitcom version of this, mariah, the sweet mom, would be going on and on about how thoughtful and generous faith is, all the while she’d be right behind you stealing fries from your plate till it’s empty.

Faith: And tessa, the tough mom, is watching the whole thing, trying to call mariah’s attention to the theft going on right under her nose, but she just can’t interrupt the heartwarming parental lecture.

Noah: Yeah, you guys would be the perfect pair of parents — the businesswoman who only sees the good and the singer who sees everything. You’d be a total pushover.

Tessa: And tessa would like to go back to talking about her album cover.

Moses: Oh, devon’s been playing your music at the house.

Tessa: Okay, what — what do you think?

Moses: I love it.

Faith: Yeah, he really does. I’ve heard him singing a couple of your songs when he thinks no one’s listening.

Moses: Oh, wow, all the secrets are coming out.

Faith: Pretty cool that you’ve gone back to devon’s label for your new album.

Moses: Yeah, and it’s been great working there, having my internship, because I get to help out on it.

Tessa: Well, I feel incredibly lucky to have devon in my corner. He’s been so supportive and he’s given me so much freedom on this project. He knows where I’ve been, where I’m trying to go, and — and i honestly don’t know where i would be without him.

Mariah: Hey, is it premature to give faith and moses a look at what you’re doing?

Noah: Show them the cover art?

Mariah: Mm.

Tessa: Uh, I mean, yeah. As long as we swear them to secrecy.

Moses: Oh, I promise I won’t tell a soul.

Mariah: Okay.

Tessa: Oh, you’re leaving?

Mariah: Yeah, I got some reports to file back at jabot.

Tessa: Oh, right now?

Mariah: Yeah, but I’ll see you at home. Okay, see you, everybody.

Noah: See ya.

Tessa: Okay.

Noah: Anyways, I took the original photo, added some layers, some color, wanted to restructure a little bit. Tessa?

Tessa: Huh? Oh, sorry, what’d I miss?

Noah: I’m just showing our captive audience how I’m doing my part to catapult your album to the top of the charts.

Tessa: Oh, that.

Moses: Wow, this is some really next-level stuff.

Faith: Isn’t it? Our very own star.

Noah: Wait, are you talking about me or her?

Tessa: Uh, me, obviously.

Noah: Oh.

[ Laughter ]

Adam: Being here with you is stirring up all the memories. When things were great. When they weren’T.

Chelsea: I feel the same way. I just keep playing it over in my mind, wondering where it all went wrong. I mean, what — what we could’ve done differently.

Adam: Well, it wasn’t any one thing. And there’s no going back, chelsea.

Chelsea: We loved each other, adam. So much. There was so much good. There was so much great, actually. I mean, look at our son.

Adam: He has both his parents in the same town again and making him feel secure, that is the most important thing, and we’re doing that.

Chelsea: We are.

Adam: Well, I should get back to the office and let you get settled in.

Chelsea: How’s it working out with chloe? And sally?

Sally: Alright, you found me out. I was spying on billy.

Chloe: Sally, what were you thinking? Why would you do that?

Sally: Well, because, as you know, adam and billy are in a battle royale, and if billy decides to retaliate on newman media, everything that you and I have accomplished could go up in flames.

Chloe: Oh. So you were going undercover to save the fashion division.

Sally: Yes.

Chloe: If you want to do something for us, stick to designing. Do something creative. Network.

Sally: Okay, I tried talking to billy, but he wouldn’t tell me what’s going on.

Chloe: You work for the enemy, sally. I mean, what, did you think that you could connect with him in some meaningful way? That he would be so moved by your interest that he would just have to confess?

Sally: Okay, well, I spoke to him with real empathy, something that nobody else is showing him right now, and trust me, he responded.

Chloe: And? What’d he say? Did he bare his soul?

Sally: No. But it was worth a try. But I did walk away from our little run-in even more worried about what billy is capable of, so i decided to take an indirect approach and just follow him around and see what he’s planning.

Chloe: Okay, you don’t realize what you’re getting yourself mixed up in.

Sally: I know billy and adam hate each other. Adam is still furious with billy about that hit piece that he published, and billy will never forgive adam for the death of your daughter. Even though adam has changed.

Chloe: Do you even hear yourself?

Sally: What are you talking about?

Chloe: You said that you weren’t interested in adam. It was strictly business. Nothing personal, and now he’s got you running around, playing harriet the spy.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Chloe: He’s pulling at your strings. You’re just like his little puppet.

Sally: It’s not like that.

Chloe: It’s exactly like that. Adam is using you. Some people have joint pain,

Noah: And I’m sure I’ll make some more adjustments, play with some new elements, add some new colors maybe.

Faith: I can’t wait to see what the cover looks like when it’s finished.

Moses: Yeah, it’s pretty cool how you and tessa are working together on this. It’s like you guys have a whole vision for the album.

Noah: Yeah, well, tessa’s music blows me away.

Tessa: Well, I love how noah’s photographs always capture things that most people wouldn’t notice.

Noah: It was an easy assignment. All I had to do was capture the feelings I get when I listen to your songs.

Tessa: [ Chuckles ]

Faith: Let’s go grab a table in the no-work zone. I’ll leave you two artistes to get back to creating your masterpiece.

Moses: Well, I can’t wait to see the final product.

Noah: See ya, man.

Tessa: Alright, where were we?

Noah: You know, I couldn’t help but notice how mariah took off. It was kind of like she couldn’t get out of here fast enough. I really hope I didn’t upset her with my lame attempt at a joke.

Tessa: Oh, no, I don’t think it was that. I think she just has, um… a lot going on right now.

Noah: So do you. You okay?

Tessa: Yeah, of course. Why wouldn’t I be? I have so much to be grateful for.

Noah: You have a lot to be proud of. You worked really hard and you put your heart and soul into your music and you made something really beautiful. It inspired me. I think the album cover should reflect that. Celebrate it. It’s something that should be celebrated.

Mariah: [ Sighs ]

Louise: Oh, hi.

Mariah: Hi, louise. Uh, I was just in the neighborhood and I wanted to stop by and see abby.

Louise: Oh, I’m sorry, abby and chance aren’t home right now.

Mariah: Oh. Yeah, I probably should have called before I just came by. What about dominic? Is he here? I haven’t seen him in a while.

Louise: He’s out with his parents.

Mariah: Yeah, yeah, of course. Uh…

Louise: I will let them know that you dropped by.

Mariah: No, no, it’s fine, it’s fine. It’s not a big deal. I’ll just catch up with them later. Thanks.

Louise: Yeah. Have a good day.

Mariah: Yeah, you too.

Sally: Adam is not using me. He doesn’t even know that I’m the one that’s been following billy. I’ve been sending him videos and photos anonymously.

Chloe: And you don’t think that he knows that you’re the one who’s behind all of this?

Sally: It was my idea.

Chloe: Are you sure about that? Are you sure you didn’t have any discussion with adam about the threat that billy poses? Or about maybe spying on him? You know what adam is capable of and how manipulative he can be. But you think that you’re special. You think that you can get close with him without getting burned, that you’re different.

Sally: I know what I’m doing.

Chloe: You’re trying to impress him. Show him how far you can go. And you are just playing right into his hands, and all this talk about him wanting to be a better man and better father, blah, blah, blah.

Sally: He is.

Chloe: Look at what he just did to billy. Adam and victor, they took away his job, and that wasn’t enough. He has to knock him while he’s down.

Sally: Billy brought this whole thing on himself by publishing that story about locke. It’s because of him that chanccomm nearly got sued out of existence. That is why billy had to walk away. But he doesn’t want to take responsibility for that, so he’s blaming adam. And now billy is spiraling out of control, he’s plotting some sort of revenge, and he’s targeting adam and us. The threat is real.

Chloe: You are right in the middle of something potentially dangerous, and adam is egging you on.

Sally: He tried to talk me out of it.

Chloe: Well, apparently not hard enough. This is what I have been warning you about time and time again. People get close and they get pulled in to adam’s orbit, and they end up getting hurt. Badly.

Sally: You mean chelsea. That’s what this whole thing is really about, why you’re so upset.

Chloe: I could be talking about a number of people. And what happened to chelsea should serve as a lesson and a warning, and by the way, she’s back in genoa city. So you have to make the decision — are you done playing these games with adam or are you gonna be part of our team?

Adam: If you want to know how chloe’s doing, ask her. I gave her total autonomy over the division. But I have no complaints.

Chelsea: I mean, you haven’t been completely hands off. You flew sally to tuscany for victoria’s wedding.

Adam: Because she made that dress on spec with newman media money. I was already going there, so i just gave her a lift. And it turned out to be a good thing because it gave a real boost to the platform.

Chelsea: That’s great.

Adam: Chloe and sally make a pretty good team. I know that chloe has her heart set on you joining them.

Chelsea: I need to discuss the details with her, and I have to meet sally in person.

Adam: Why, are you afraid you’re not gonna get along?

Chelsea: It’s a possibility. We may have different sensibilities. We may work differently. Those little details can be deal-breakers.

Adam: Okay, just take things one step at a time. There’s no rush, no pressure.

Chelsea: Thank you.

Adam: Just focus on what’s important.

Chelsea: Connor.

Adam: Exactly. Well, I’m gonna go say goodbye to him, and then I should get back to work.

Chelsea: Sure.

[ Sighs ]

Chloe: Good guess. I’ve seen her, and I’ve shared the good news with sally. Chelsea looks fantastic. Mind-blowing.

Adam: Mm-hmm. She really does. It’s good to see her so happy again.

Chloe: She’s in a good place, so I want to get her up to speed and working here with us where she belongs.

Adam: Yeah, I know it’s always been your plan, your hope to have you and chelsea working together again.

Chloe: It’s the only reason why I accepted your job offer to run the fashion division in the first place. For her to have a safe place to land. This is something that you and i both wanted. Not only because it’s the right thing to do, which it is, but because she’s also a hell of a designer.

Adam: Yeah, just after speaking with her, I’m just not sure if she wants this as much as we want her to want it.

Chloe: What are you saying?

Adam: I’m saying if chelsea can’t commit to this, we have to be ready to move forward without her.

Moses: It’s been fun, but i have to get going before it gets too late.

Faith: Wait, where are you going?

Moses: Oh, just — just running a few errands.

Faith: I’ll come with you.

Moses: No, I — I don’t want to break up the party. You and noah are hanging out.

Faith: I can do that anytime.

Moses: No, it’s fine. I’ll be good on my own. I just have to get some christmas gifts.

Faith: I love buying gifts.

Noah: He’s shopping for you, genius.

Faith: Oops. Okay, yeah, I’ll sit this one out. But call me later.

Moses: Yeah, of course. Nice meeting you, man.

Noah: You too.

Faith: Good luck! Thank you.

Noah: For what?

Faith: For not taking moses aside and giving him some kind of big brother talk or staring him down or asking him a million embarrassing questions.

Noah: I was fighting my protective instincts. Come on, ease my mind. Tell me I have nothing to worry about.

Faith: He’s respectful. He’s kind. He’s smart. And if you really need to know, he is the easiest and happiest part of my day. And my days are already pretty good to begin with lately.

Noah: Well, I’m glad to hear it. And I promise I’ll try not to embarrass you too much.

Faith: That’s all that I’ll get from you.

Noah: I’m just a little gun-shy lately. Maybe I’m projecting. Why are you looking at me like that?

Faith: I’m wondering if I can ask you something. And before you answer, know that I promise I will not tell anyone what you say, so you can be honest with me.

Noah: Yeah, sure.

Faith: Do you still have feelings for tessa?

[ Door opens ]

Mariah: Hey.

Tessa: Hey. Hey, so the work you had didn’t take too long?

Mariah: Uh, I didn’t actually go to jabot.

Tessa: Ah.

Mariah: [ Sighs ] Yeah, I just, uh, had to get out of there.

Tessa: Because of everything faith said about us being parents?

Mariah: She was just joking around. And I can’t expect everybody to have baby-free conversations just because of me. You know, she doesn’t even know that we were talking about being parents.

Tessa: You know you can talk to me about anything, right? I’m not gonna be upset.

Mariah: I just can’t stop thinking about what it would be like if we were parents. How incredible we could be. Maybe it’s another refill at your favorite diner… understa but chelsea’s been dragging

Chloe: No question. Chelsea is definitely joining the fashion platform.

Adam: And I hope that that happens, for all our sakes. But chelsea’s been dragging her feet all this time and she hasn’t committed to this, so i just want you to be prepared if she doesn’t take the job.

Chloe: Chelsea is understandably cautious about leaping back into life in genoa city. She needs to have certain guarantees about the situation that she’s going to be walking into. No unwelcome surprises, and i think that’s a good thing and i imagine you would, too. That you want to have the best for her and set her up for success.

Adam: Of course, of course i do. I’m hoping that this will be a great thing for her.

Chloe: Well, I’m glad to hear you say that because chelsea just wants to know that she is coming to work in a positive and supportive environment and that people that are working here won’t be distracted by personal baggage and pointless vendettas.

Adam: Point taken.

Chloe: And chelsea wants to meet sally face-to-face soon.

Sally: Yeah, looking forward to it. I have no doubt that you, me, and chelsea will be a genius collaboration.

Chloe: Great. Well, then if we’re all on the same page, I’m gonna get back to work.

Adam: Mm. Sally, if you have a minute, something I’d like to go over with you.

Sally: I will catch up with you later. Why do I feel like I’m being called to the principal’s office? Am I in some kind of trouble?

Noah: Well, someone’s been reading too much young adult fiction. Everywhere you look, you’re trying to find a love story. Why would you think that I still have feelings for tessa?

Faith: Because I have eyes.

Noah: [ Scoffs ] Look, tessa and mariah are madly in love with each other, and she and I broke up a long time ago.

Faith: I know all of that, but I also know you, even though you’ve been overseas and you’re a wunderkind in the art world.

Noah: “Wunderkind”? That’s a big word for you.

Faith: I know more than you think. And I saw the way you were looking at tessa when you were talking.

Noah: Faith, you’re imagining things.

Faith: I caught a vibe.

Noah: Oh, yeah, and what vibe would that be?

Faith: Like you were thinking, “what if?” And this isn’t the first time that I’ve noticed it.

Noah: [ Sighs ] Nothing could be further from the truth.

Mariah: I stopped by abby’s to see the baby, but nobody was there. It was just the nanny.

Tessa: Okay.

Mariah: And I just felt so stupid. Standing there in the doorway like a stranger wanting to see somebody else’s baby.

Tessa: Well, you’re an integral part of that child’s life. You always will be.

Mariah: I know. And that’s everybody keeps saying to me. You know, “you’re always gonna have a special bond with him and the nickname you gave him will just be between the two of you.” But he’s not bowie. He’s dominic. He’s abby and chance’s son. Even though I carried him and i brought him into the world. And believe me, I — I never thought that I would be the type of person that was thinking about having kids or wanting kids. I mean, I didn’t think I had a maternal bone in my body. Sometimes I don’t even recognize who I am now. But if you told me right now that you were ready to start having a family, I mean, it would be like my birthday and christmas and every holiday and best day of my life rolled into one. But this is not who I was when we met at all.

Tessa: Well, there’s nothing wrong with that. We’ve both changed.

Mariah: I know, but you’re in a totally different place with this than I am, and I accept that. I — I really, really do. So let’s just talk about something else for once, please. Like, you know, what are we gonna get for dinner?

[ Laughs ]

Tessa: Mariah, that’s not fair. You can’t just say all of that and not give me a chance to respond.

Noah: There are no residual feelings between me and her. We get along, we’re both creatives. That’s why we can still work together.

Faith: So you don’t look like a lovesick puppy every time you see her?

Noah: No. No. Oh, no, that’s just my “recently heartbroken by a woman in london” look.

Faith: Hmm.

Noah: Yeah. Look, I’m glad tessa and I can still get along. It’s restored my faith in humanity.

Faith: Yeah, but —

Noah: But nothing. I’m not interested in tessa in the way that you mean. So find someone else to worry about, okay?

Faith: Yeah.

Noah: So, now that I know this is a meeting of the concerned siblings club, why don’t you tell me more about you and moses?

Faith: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, yeah, nice try.

Noah: Well, it was worth a shot.

Faith: [ Chuckles ]

Tessa: Thank you for being so honest. I don’t want you to feel like you have to hide anything from me — ever.

Mariah: But I’m going through something that you’re just not right now.

Tessa: But whatever you’re feeling, I feel it. We’re connected. If you hurt, I hurt. And I may not have gone through everything that you’ve gone through lately and I may not be, um…

Mariah: An unholy mess?

Tessa: But you’re my beautiful unholy mess. I may not be as certain about the idea of having a baby, and i may not be ready to commit to it quite yet, but I am willing to talk more about it.

Mariah: Really?

Tessa: Yeah.

Mariah: [ Chuckles ]

Chloe: Okay, so I know you just got home and here I am pounding on your door, but I’m only here because I need an answer from you and I need that answer to be yes. I’m not trying to put any undue pressure on you, but please, please, come work with me at newman fashion.

Chelsea: You’re impossible. I told you I need time to think about it.

Chloe: I’ve given you months. I’ve done all the heavy lifting. I got the fashion platform off the ground. I’ve been working with adam, for god’s sakes. This is what it was all about, so you and I could work with each other again. What else do you need to know? We can get started. Right this second.

Chelsea: I don’t want to disappoint you.

Chloe: Okay, then don’T.

Chelsea: But I don’t feel like that’s the best move for me.

Chloe: [ Scoffs ] I have been saving this spot for you by my side. Why don’t you want to do it?

Chelsea: Chloe, maybe being away gave me time to think — you know, time to think about what I did and what I had become. And now that I’m back, I’m starting to realize I’m disconnected to everyone and everything in this town except connor. So it’s forcing me to realize maybe I don’t belong in genoa city anymore.

Chloe: What?

Adam: No, you’re not in any kind of trouble. I, um, just had something that i wanted to run by you.

Sally: Well, I’m all ears.

Adam: I’ve been receiving mysterious texts and videos of billy in situations that don’t exactly paint him in the best light.

Sally: Do you know who sent them?

Adam: It’s from an anonymous source.

Sally: Fascinating.

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Sally: Someone like that, who’s willing to stick their neck and wants nothing in return sounds pretty special.

Adam: Well, the information has definitely piqued my interest.

Sally: Well, I’m sure your anonymous source would be glad to hear that.

Adam: Billy might be planning a counterattack against newman media, so it is good to have an arsenal at the ready.

Sally: Mm-hmm. Well, I brought up that very idea with you.

Adam: Which is why I can talk to you about this. Because I can’t exactly trust this anonymous source. Could be walking into a trap.

Sally: Well, anything’s possible, I suppose. But it does sound like they have your best interests at heart.

Adam: Well, it’s someone local, that’s clear. There’s just not many people that would go to that extremes to gather intel on billy and send it to me. Do you have any thoughts on who that might be?

Chelsea: Shouldn’t school be out by now? Where’s connor?

Adam: I promise, he will be home right on time.

Chelsea: “Home.” As in here. Right. How has the transition to the ranch been?

Adam: Well, when he got back from boarding school, I thought it would be important for him to have some stability and consistency, and living here has given him both.

Chelsea: And how’s it been for you, being so close to victor? And everybody else who lives on the property?

Adam: You’re asking about me and sharon.

Sharon: There you go. One for the road.

Rey: Thanks, love.

Sharon: You seem a bit on edge today. Are you working on a big case, putting away a bad guy?

Rey: The opposite, actually. Today I find out if my former partner will be my future partner.

Sharon: Chance.

Rey: He has a meeting this morning with the chief — earlier than planned.

Abby: So you’re going down to the station to meet with paul?

Chance: Yeah.

Abby: You don’t think it’s a little too soon?

Chance: No, no, it’s just a preliminary conversation. I promise, no stakeouts, no interrogations, nothing like that. We’re just gonna map out the timeline for my return.

Abby: So you’re still planning on easing back into work, right?

Chance: Absolutely, okay? I want to get as much time as i can with you and dominic. That’s my number-one priority.

Abby: Good, because I want as much uninterrupted quality time with you as I can get. I think it’ll be good for us and our family.

Chance: So do I, so do I. This is — this is the happiest I’ve been in a long time.

[ Both chuckle ]

Abby: So, um, where’d you go last night? I was a little bit worried when I woke up and saw a note that you were getting some air.

Chance: Oh.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Abby: Oh. I’m not expecting anyone.

Chance: Me neither. Christine.

Christine: [ Chuckles ] Chance, welcome back. I’ve got some big news.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Chance: I’m not okay. And — and it’s getting harder to pretend like I am.

Devon: Who you pretending for?

Chance: Feels like everyone.

Chance: It’s just not who i am, man. I let her down before our baby was even born. I mean, I failed her.

Devon: I don’t know how you figure that you failed anybody. You’re home. You made it. You’re alive. You know, you have a brand-new son. You got a great wife.

Chance: Do I deserve it? You know, I made commitments to abby and dominic. I’m gonna do everything that i can to try to live up to them. But — but the question is, can I?

Amanda: Because I think i know you pretty well at this point, and I can tell something’s weighing on you. I mean, last night was the first time you ever left while I was sleeping. Is something up?

Devon: Yeah, it’s chance. I’m — I’m worried about him.

Victoria: Well, that’s a very interesting question, given the things that you said about ashland and me when we spoke earlier.

Devon: [ Sighs ] I ran into chance last night at society. And we had a conversation that didn’t really make me feel too comfortable.

Amanda: Why? What did he say?

Devon: He said he’s been feeling very guilty about abandoning abby throughout the entire pregnancy. Not to mention mariah getting kidnapped while she was carrying the child and him not knowing anything about it. And then on top of it all, while he was gone, you know, he lost every single person on his team, and he came back the only survivor.

Amanda: Wow. I mean, that is a lot to absorb in a short period of time. I think that his emotions are understandable.

Devon: No, I mean, yes. It’s to be expected. I don’t know how he could be in a good head space after what he went through. But he’s clearly struggling, you know? Struggling to find any kind of normalcy being back home, and that concerns me ’cause I don’t want it to affect dominic.

Sharon: I’m surprised that chance would want to return work so soon.

Rey: Well, apparently he got the all-clear from his doctor.

Sharon: I wasn’t thinking about his physical fitness.

Rey: You’re wondering if he’s emotionally ready.

Sharon: Being a police officer is a stressful job, but he’s also a new dad.

Christine: So I got a call from my old boss. He thought I might want to be the one to share this news with you.

[ Sighs ] Thanks to the intel you provided, identifying the attackers of the safe house, the follow-up team was able to track them down and catch them.

Chance: You’re kidding.

Christine: No, wait, it gets better. The people that set the bomb revealed the location of the leader that you had been hunting down. He’s been apprehended, too, chance. This whole thing, it’s over.

Abby: Oh!

Chance: Wow, that is unbelievable to hear.

Abby: That’s a huge weight off of our shoulders, right?

Chance: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Was everyone involved arrested?

Christine: Yeah, I believe so. I mean, once they were getting interrogated, they all sort of turned on each other quickly. So that means this case is officially closed. It also means that you no longer have to have a security detail.

Abby: [ Sighs ] My god, babe, we are officially safe. That means we can finally have our lives back. Oh.

Chance: [ Chuckles ]

Ashland: I think I’m gonna turn down that offer of a drink.

Victoria: You seem to have had enough already.

Billy: Oh, that’s right, you two have to go back to the office. I don’T. I don’t have a job right now. Thought I was gonna miss it, but I really don’T. And, you know, let’s just be honest, I’m an abbott. I got plenty of money in the bank.

Lily: Okay, billy, stop. This isn’t funny.

Ashland: You should listen to your better half.

Billy: I do listen to her all the time. And she listens to me, because she accepts me for who I am. You know the feeling, don’t you? I mean, clearly victoria has forgiven you for plenty of things. And all fairness to you, you forgave me for many things, as well. I actually think we have something in common. She likes a little bit of that risk-taking kind of stuff, you know? Ashland, do you play poker? Only for fun, of course. Come on, let’s have a game, me and you, mano a mano. You name the stakes.

Chelsea: I am not trying to pry when it comes to you and sharon. I have completed therapy, and all of those dark, poisonous thoughts are behind me. But I can’t help being a little curious.

Adam: Okay. Well, let me put your mind at ease, I, um, barely see sharon anymore. I don’t have any reason to go to her side of the property, and vice versa. I mean, she and rey are building their life together. And I’m focused on connor and newman media.

Chelsea: You sound good. Focused.

Adam: I am.

[ Sighs ] Truth be told, I’d love to live somewhere other than the tack house. See enough of my father at work, and I’d like to be closer to the office, but connor, he loves the open spaces here. He likes being by the horses and close to family.

Chelsea: Yeah.

Adam: Faith has been great. She’s been giving him riding lessons, so grandpa victor and grandma nikki can do no wrong in his eyes.

Chelsea: Good. Oh, that all sounds wonderful. But are you sure connor’s doing okay? I mean, he seemed fine on our video chats, but it’s such a small window into his life.

Adam: No, I’ve been watching him like a hawk to see if there’s any emotional trouble, but I genuinely think he’s doing well.

Chelsea: Good. Good. I’m relieved to hear that, ’cause it’s been hard, adam, being away from him for so long. There’s so many changes in connor’s life. I mean, he came back to genoa city, he moved into a new house.

Adam: I know, I know. He’s been dealing with it like a champ. I promise. Honestly, his biggest concern is he misses his mother. So your surprise return, it’s gonna make his day.

Chelsea: Thank you for saying that. Earlier, you said you were glad to see me. Does that mean you missed me, too? Maybe it’s another refill at your favorite diner…

Amanda: Listen, I would never impugn your motives. Okay? I know that you are coming from a good place. You are concerned whether or not dom is okay. But do you think that chance’s mental state may cause him to neglect the baby in some way?

Devon: No, I don’t think that. I… chance is a responsible guy. He’s always been that, his whole life. And that’s the most important part of being a father. So…

Amanda: Yet you’re still worried.

Devon: Yeah, I can’t help it. You know? The only thing that I know is that I want dominic to have the best life possible, and I also want to be there to help chance out, especially ’cause he opened up to me. And I think I know a way to achieve both those things, and it’s just that I need to spend as much time with dominic as i can.

Sharon: You know, the way we’re rhapsodizing about your relationship with chance, it has me wondering if I should be jealous.

Rey: Oh, stop it. You’re much cuter than he is.

Sharon: Oh, good. I’m glad there’s at least one thing you prefer about me.

Rey: And you are the kindest, most compassionate person I’ve ever met. You are warm and beautiful and the love of my life.

Sharon: Aww, that’s more like it.

Rey: Mm.

Sharon: Chance is lucky to have a partner who’s so generous with compliments.

Rey: You know, I was actually considering heading down to the station to offer my moral support while he met with paul, but you’ve already made so much fun of me.

Billy: I can round up some of the old boys. I’m sure they’re still kicking around. I mean, I haven’t been clean all that long.

Ashland: I’m not about to feed your addiction.

Billy: Oh, really? That’s where your moral boundaries stop, ashland? You got no problem setting a trap and stripping me of my dignity, but now you’re a straight-shooter? Now you’re mr. Trustworthy?

Ashland: You’d been warned. I told you that digging around in my past would be a losing proposition for you. You brought this on yourself, billy.

Billy: Yeah, I’m in the wrong. That’s rich coming from you.

Victoria: Enough, billy. Why don’t you go to a gamblers anonymous meeting or something?

Billy: Oh, wow, there you go. That’s why you get paid the big bucks. Yeah, I’m not gonna do that, victoria.

Victoria: Don’t do this because you’re gonna regret it.

Billy: Oh, believe me, i regret many things in my life. This is not one of them.

Victoria: I can’t watch this anymore. We should go.

Lily: Yeah, maybe too well.

Adam: Did I miss you? I’m not sure how to answer that.

Chelsea: I didn’t mean to put you on the spot. That was not my intention. My therapist encouraged me to be more direct, but maybe coming out and saying it like that was too direct.

Adam: I just — I thought we talked about this.

Chelsea: We did, adam, but not in person, so I thought that we could do that now.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Did I not make it clear how i felt? I thought I did.

Chelsea: I remember what you said. That we need to forge our own paths moving forward separately, but I don’t know, I heard something different in your voice today. You seem more at peace, like maybe you’re willing to get past what I did.

Adam: I do feel more at peace for a number of reasons. But as far as forgetting and forgiving that you tried to frame me for attempted murder, I really don’t think we should have that discussion when connor’s gonna be walking through the door.

Chelsea: You’re right. Another time.

Connor: Mom!

Chelsea: Connor! [ Laughs ] Hi! Oh, my boy! Hi!

Connor: Grandpa said there was a surprise. I was secretly hoping it was you. I’ve missed you so much.

Chelsea: Not nearly as much as I’ve missed you. Oh, my baby! Oh!

Abby: Can you believe it? No more security following us around, no more looking over our shoulders. It feels like this is the start of a new chapter.

Chance: Yeah, it sure does, huh? Hey, um, I’d love to stay and talk about it, but I got to get to this meeting with paul.

[ Doorbell rings ] Hey, man.

Devon: Hey.

Chance: Come on in.

Devon: Thank you. Thanks. Hey.

Abby: Hey.

Devon: Figured I’d come by and check on dominic.

Abby: Yeah.

Chance: Yeah, of course, of course. Hey, I meant to call you this morning, man. I just wanted to say thanks for listening last night.

Devon: Oh, yeah.

Chance: Sorry if I seemed a little off-balance.

Devon: Please, don’t apologize for nothing, man. It’s completely understandable.

Abby: You know what? We got some great news. The people who bombed chance’s safe house and their bosses, they have been arrested.

Devon: Really?

Abby: Yeah.

Devon: That’s fantastic news.

Chance: Yeah, you know, little disappointed I couldn’t finish the job myself, but, you know…

Abby: Oh, come on, you gave your people the information that helped arrest the perpetrators.

Chance: Yeah, you’re right, you’re right. That’s a good thing.

[ Chuckles ]

Devon: That’s a great thing. Really, it’s — we should celebrate it. You guys want to go and grab a bite or something or…?

Chance: No, I wish I could. I got to get to this meeting, so rain check.

Devon: Alright.

Chelsea: You have grown so much, but you look happy and healthy.

Victor: Well, now, connor, you tell her that is what life on the ranch does to you, right? I mean, fresh air, all this room to play games in, right? And grandparents who dote on you.

Connor: Now mom being here makes it perfect.

Adam: Mm-hmm. Good day for all of us.

Connor: Want to go down to the stables? I can show you my favorite horses.

Victor: You bet. This is your home. You do anything you want to, okay? You show mom around. Okay.

Adam: You had to know she was coming back at some point.

Victor: Mm. Was her sudden return supposed to shock us or what?

Adam: No, she’s actually been trying to get ahold of me for the last few days. I was always in the middle of something when she called.

Victor: I need to know what her return means to you.

Victoria: I’m so sorry that you had to deal with billy’s latest scene.

Ashland: Well, I don’t hold you responsible. I almost feel bad for him. As much as I hated the way billy used my history for blackmail fodder, it’s sad to see him falling back into his old habits.

Victoria: Well, it makes me even more certain that sending the kids to boarding school was the right thing to do.

Ashland: Well, now that we know what’s going on, you don’t have to keep worrying that billy’s up to something.

Billy: What are you worried about? I think that went great. I think victoria and ashland bought every minute of it.

Lily: Yeah, it’s just your drunken tirade felt a little too real to me.

Billy: Honey, I was just faking it.

Lily: I know, but the venom in your voice when you were accusing ashland, it was pretty chilling.

Billy: Well, ashland deserves everything he gets, and it was all part of the act. We know what we’re doing here.

Lily: I know, I’m just worried that you’re gonna get too caught up in this. Like, what if you go so deep into this facade that you lose sight of the goal?

Billy: I’m in control, okay? I’ve never been more focused in my life.

Lily: [ Sighs ] Okay, well, if that’s true, then there’s something I want you to do, and you’re not gonna like it. Super emma just about sleeps in her cape.

Adam: Listen, there is no future for me and chelsea as a couple. We’ll always be co-parents to connor, but we have done too much damage to each other to get back what we had before.

Victor: Right. I’m relieved to hear you say that, for your sake, okay?

Adam: Yeah, my primary concern is connor. And I know it’s gonna be hard for him to deal with his parents’ separation.

Victor: Well, he’s a strong boy. He’ll persevere.

Adam: Well, hopefully having chelsea back will help. He needs all the love he can get, especially from his mom.

Victor: Now, you know, she’s a fiercely protective mother, and I respect that. But, son, she’s toxic for you. As your relationship was toxic, as well.

Adam: As much as I appreciate the advice, I’m not crazy about getting love-life critiques from my father.

Victor: I am telling you for your sake. I’m supportive of you. Your work at newman media has been fantastic — very good. I’m very impressed. The thing that screws your life up is your romantic entanglements.

Abby: There you go. So, christine had some big news, but I have even bigger news in the life of dominic newman abbott chancellor.

Devon: Why? What’d he do?

Abby: He sat up today.

Devon: He did?

Abby: Mm-hmm.

Devon: Get out of here. Oh, my gosh. He’s advanced for his age, isn’t he?

Abby: Yeah, a little. It was very exciting.

Devon: Oh. I have to admit, actually, i probably could’ve seen this coming, ’cause while you were gone, he started working on doing that.

Abby: Really?

Devon: Yeah.

Abby: Oh, well, [Chuckles] Maybe we have a little gymnast on our hands.

Devon: Oh, man. Did you get it on video?

Abby: I did. I will text it to you.

Devon: Thank you.

Abby: So, you ran into chance last night? He was in such a rush to get to the station that I didn’t get any details, but how’d he seem to you?

Sharon: Thank you. Hey.

Rey: Hey.

Sharon: How’d it go with chance?

Rey: You can ask him yourself.

Sharon: So the conquering hero returns.

Chance: Oh, please.

Sharon: Well, rey told me a little bit about your mission.

Rey: Well, I can tell you more now. Chance just found out that all the criminals have been caught.

Sharon: That’s amazing.

Chance: Yeah, you know, just doing my job. A job I didn’t technically finish, so calling me a hero is a bit of a stretch.

Sharon: What you did is heroic in my book.

Rey: Mine, too. And, chance, you can be modest all you want, but I full intend to brag about my partner.

Billy: Please don’t tell me you’re gonna ask me to drop the plan again.

Lily: No, I’m not gonna do that. I’m on board. My mind hasn’t changed. I just — I want you to add a step.

Billy: Which is what?

Lily: I think you need to tell jack what’s going on. Let him know this whole thing is a charade. It’s not fair. I mean, I already feel bad that we’re lying to victoria. The look on her face? She was mortified.

Billy: Victoria sat back while ashland, victor, and adam tore me down. Okay? Why should I feel remorse about rubbing in the consequences of what they did to me in her face?

Lily: Because jack has nothing to do with that, okay? It’s not fair to let him think that you’re drinking and gambling again.

Billy: I see your logic and i understand your compassion, but my righteous brother is not gonna go along with this plan. In fact, he could blow the whole thing up. We were alone when my husband had the heart attack.

Devon: I don’t think it’s a secret that chance is still… trying to adjust to being home. You know?

Abby: Yeah, I mean, he’s admitted as much to me. I guess I’m just optimistic that he’s gonna get past this.

Devon: Can’t be easy for him to process everything that’s happened.

Abby: I hate that he keeps beating himself up over going away. And, yes, I understand that he feels bad that he wasn’t here for me and for mariah, but no one holds that against him. Everyone who loves chance understands the circumstances, and we know that he is dedicated to the greater good. I mean, it’s one of the things that I love about him.

Devon: I know. I know that, and maybe spending time home with you and with the baby that can sit up on his own now will make things a little easier on him.

Abby: Yeah. I just — I keep telling myself to be patient, that chance is gonna get back to his old self. It’s just gonna take longer than I thought.

Sharon: Chance, you may not think of yourself as a hero, but I think you deserve a free drink, and I own this place so I get to make the call.

Chance: Can’t argue with that, huh?

Rey: No.

Sharon: What can I get you?

Chance: Oh, I don’t know. I, um… you know what? Let me get right back to you. Excuse me just for a moment. Hey, christine.

Christine: Hi.

Chance: It’s good to see you again. I have to apologize to you. I was a little overwhelmed by the news earlier, and I forgot to thank you for everything that you did while I was gone.

Christine: I just tried to keep nina and abby up to date.

Chance: Well, you did much more than that. I mean, they told me what a great source of support and information that you were to them. So I thank you. I’m so grateful.

Christine: Yeah. I was happy to help, well, until my information became inaccurate. Breaking the news of your death to your mother and your wife was definitely one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do.

Chance: Yeah, I, uh…can’t even imagine.

Christine: I hate that they had to go through that, and it’s not like I’m blaming you. I know you had to do that for the safety of your family and the sake of the mission, it just…

[ Sighs ] It wasn’t easy at all.

Chance: Well, thank you again. I got to get going. Dom’s gonna be up any minute, but it was great to see you.

Christine: Okay.

Victor: Do you feel like going down to the stables?

Adam: No, I don’t want to be constantly hovering over chelsea’s shoulders. She deserves to have some alone time with her son.

Victor: Alright.

[ Cellphone chimes ] What’s that?

Adam: [ Chuckles ] It’s another video of billy from our anonymous sender, and it looks like it is not at a bar for once. It’s at the coffee house with victoria.

Victoria: I, um, I just wanted to see how you were doing.

Billy: Fair to middlin’. I’ll be much better once I get out of here and have a little something stronger to drink than coffee.

Victoria: A little early, don’t you think?

Billy: Oh, I don’t know about that. It’s cocktail hour in paris. Thinking after that, I’ll hit up a poker game and probably lose a small fortune. Then, maybe jump on a private jet and go to vegas and just lose myself entirely because that’s what you expect me to do, right? And I wouldn’t want to disappoint.

Adam: Billy is certainly fulfilling expectations.

Victor: Well, now, his downfall was predictable. But who the hell sent this to you? Can whoever it is be trusted? You have no idea who sent this to you.

Adam: Those are all great questions, and I don’t know the answers. But I will find out.

Victor: We had better find out.

Billy: I have good reason for keeping jack out of the loop. I know him. He’s gonna want to save me or, you know, help fix me, and that’s gonna add legitimacy to my downward spiral.

Lily: Yeah, but it’s also gonna inflict emotional pain on him. Jack is an addict, so if he sees you spiraling out of control and feels like he can’t help you, that’s gonna be really painful for him.

Billy: Yeah.

Lily: Do you really think it’s worth it to put him through that?

Billy: No, okay? It’s not ideal. But in the end, it’s gonna be fine because I’m not actually spiraling.

Lily: No, I know, but you’re lying to your brother, and he might not be able to forgive that. Look, just — it’s something to think about, okay?

Billy: Okay. I appreciate it, ’cause the fact is we’re in this together. So jack is out of town, and we will make up our minds by the time he gets home.

Lily: Okay, sounds good.

Billy: I have to ask you, is there another reason why you want to bring jack into our little circle of trust?

Lily: What would that be?

Billy: Someone else to hold me accountable just in case I do start falling apart.

Lily: No, I mean, it’s great, you know, to always have more people on your side, but, no, if you’re saying that you have things under control, then I — I trust you.

Billy: Thank you. Hold on a second. There’s a woman that’s about to sit down right now, I feel like she’s been following me for the last couple of days and I don’t think it’s a coincidence.

Lily: I think that actually might be sally.

Billy: What?

Lily: I mean, the disguise is decent, but I overheard her and adam talking about spying on you. That has to be her.

Billy: Wow. She has no idea that she’s playing right into our hand, does she?

Lily: What do you think we should do?

Billy: Let’s give her a show. How did olay top expensive creams?

Sharon: I’m just so happy that chance and abby have a happy ending to their story. It must be such a relief for them to be home and safe and able to move on with their lives.

Christine: Oh, I’m sure it is, yeah.

Sharon: Well, excuse me.

Christine: [ Sighs ] So, um…paul admitted he thought it might be a little too soon for chance to go back to work. What do you think?

Rey: Well, I don’t know enough to answer that question. I mean, this is only the second time I’ve seen chance since he’s been back home. Don’t get me wrong, I’m rooting for him to rejoin the force at some point, but…I don’t know if he’s ready.

Christine: He shouldn’t rush things.

Rey: I think the mission took a lot out of him — maybe more than any of us realize.

Devon: Mommy told me that you sat up for the first time, buddy. Good job! Such a good job, man. Aww. I know you’re happy that mom’s back. I hope you’re not tired of seeing my face, though, ’cause i tell you what, I’m gonna be visiting you all the time. Okay? That’s right.

Connor: That was really fun, mom.

Chelsea: Have I mentioned how much I missed you?

Connor: You have a bunch.

Chelsea: Well, get used to it ’cause you’re gonna hear it 100 more times.

Connor: Can you spend the night here with us tonight?

Chelsea: You know what? Now that I’m back, I am going to be staying at the penthouse, but we can plan lots of visits.

Adam: Uh-huh, and even though your parents aren’t together anymore, that does not change how much we love you, connor.

 

Chelsea: Nobody is more important to us than you are.

Victor: You just know that the whole family is here for you, okay? And soon we’ll go out riding.

Adam: You know what? Maybe you could stay with your mom in town tonight. You have a lot more catching up to do, right?

Connor: Yeah. Is that alright?

Chelsea: Nothing would make me happier.

Ashland: I refuse to worry about billy abbott. He’s lily’s problem, at least for now. I don’t know how long she’ll put up with his self-destructive streak.

Victoria: Yes, but I’m worried about her leaving him. You know, there’s only so much someone can take when billy careens off course.

Ashland: Which you know from experience.

Victoria: If she does leave him, billy’s gonna get a lot worse. Being alone without someone to rein him in, that’s an even more dangerous place for him to be.

Lily: I’m sorry, you’re carrying cards around as a prop?

Billy: Always be prepared — that’s my motto.

Lily: [ Scoffs ] You stole that from the boy scouts.

Billy: You gonna help me out?

Lily: Billy, please put those away.

Billy: What’s the big deal?

Lily: No, I’m serious. I’m not amused.

Billy: Lily, I can see you’re not amused. It’s not a problem.

Lily: Okay, gambling is not a joke, okay? Not something you just do casually.

Billy: We’re not gambling. There’s no literally no money on the table. I’m simply just feeling the cards.

Lily: Okay, you know what? That’s it.

Billy: Lily.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Yes, you are correct.

Lily: I managed to get a few hours of sleep on the couch, and then I got right back to it. But I don’t mind, honestly. I’m learning so much about the company, and I have so many ideas in my head on how to modernize it and boost profitability.

Billy: That’s good. I like this enthusiasm. I’m glad you got rid of the self-doubt you had earlier.

Lily: Oh, yeah. I put that out of my mind because I am prepared to rise to the challenge.

Billy: And that’s exactly why my mom hired you.

Lily: Mm. Yeah, I know. She’s a savvy leader, but she’s also very traditional and conservative.

Billy: Uh, yeah, that’s true. No one’s gonna accuse her of having the risk-taking sensibility that I have. But you know what? This is not about me. This is about you, and I don’t want to get in front of your moment right now. You are shining, and I love to see this excitement. Oh, come on now. You can say it.

Lily: No…

Victor: Hey, son.

Adam: Morning.

Victor: So, I understand you arranged for noah to do some freelance work for us. Thank you for doing that.

Adam: Uh, yeah. I was happy to do it.

Victor: I know that you’re a little disappointed that i didn’t pursue the purchase of chanccomm, but, you know, there are a lot of good things in store for newman media. You know that.

Adam: Mm-hmm. Yeah, I’ll make sure of that.

Victor: Okay. What are you looking at?

Adam: I just received some unsolicited candid footage.

Victor: Of what?

Adam: Of billy. I ran into him yesterday. He was drinking alone.

Victor: Huh. Yeah, well…I saw him the other afternoon…drinking alone.

Adam: Yeah, I knew this was a rough time for him, but I didn’t think he was gonna be coming apart at the seams this quickly.

Victor: He had two solid parents, and he has always been a loser.

Adam: To put it mildly.

Victor: Amazing. Even when he, you know, found some success riding on the coattails of someone else, he could never hang onto it. So, it’s not a surprise to me, nor to victoria, apparently, considering what she’s about to do.

Ashland: I need you to take care of this immediately and use only this number to contact me. Do not go through anyone at the newman/locke offices, okay? It’s imperative that this be handled with the utmost discretion. Thank you. I’ll be in touch.

Victoria: Hi.

Ashland: Been standing there long?

Victoria: Long enough to overhear you. So, what needs to be handled with the utmost discretion? I’m your wife, your partner. Whatever it is, surely you can tell me.

Ashland: I’m afraid I can’T.

Chelsea: I hadn’t made up my mind yet, and then, once I did make up mind, I thought it would be more fun to surprise you.

Chloe: So, is this surprise just for your bestie, or is there anyone else who knows that you’re back in town?

Chelsea: If you’re referring to adam…

Chloe: Who else?

Chelsea: …I didn’t want to spring myself on him. I mentioned to him I might be coming home several times, actually, and he would cut me off, saying it wasn’t a good time.

Chloe: He should be making time for the mother of his child.

Chelsea: Yeah!

Chloe: But I think he does have a lot on his mind lately.

Chelsea: Such as?

Chloe: Billy. There’s another big war between the two of them.

Chelsea: [ Exhaling ] Wow! I guess some things never change.

Billy: I got to admit, though. Seeing you all fired up like this, there’s a part of me that makes me want to get in the trenches and paint this picture with you.

Lily: Oh, a part of you? I guess I have to work harder at trying to change your mind.

Billy: Yes, darling. Not even you can convince me to come and work at chancellor. However, I will be your biggest supporter. I will be here for you no matter what to bounce ideas off of, and, of course, to be your personal consultant day or night.

Lily: Oh, careful. I’m gonna hold you to that.

Billy: You better, because I’m serious. I’m all yours.

Lily: I know! And I’m yours, which is why I’m so disappointed that we’re not gonna team up in the office anymore.

Billy: I’m proud of you and this path that you’re on. And I appreciate you wanting to still work with me. However, this plan that I’ve put into motion, with victor and adam, it’s the only thing I’m focusing on right now.

Ashland: You have nothing to fear, I swear.

Victoria: Do I seem worried to you?

Ashland: Not at all, but i can only imagine where your mind went to when you overheard that phone call… back to the other secrets I kept from you, perhaps the time i claimed to be making payments for a wedding gift, and I was actually planning to pay off jesse gaines — not a moment i am proud of.

Victoria: Well, okay. Maybe there was a tiny bit of déj vu, but I know that a lot of things have changed since then. So, if you’re good, then I’m good. I trust you.

Ashland: I am so grateful for that. But I’m still sensing something from you. Could it be curiosity?

Victoria: [ Laughs ] Maybe just a little.

Ashland: Well, you’re just gonna have to be in suspense a little while longer.

Victoria: How about just give me one clue?

Ashland: Alright, just one. I actually was making arrangements for a present.

Victoria: Oh, really?! For me?

Ashland: Well, who else? And that is all I’m going to say about it.

Victoria: [ Gasps ] Person, place, or thing? Can it fit under the christmas tree?

[ Both laugh ]

Ashland: Well, look at you. That’s a nice try.

Victoria: Oh, well, if at first you don’t succeed… come on. Tell me. You know you want to tell me. Just whisper it in my ear. I promise you, I won’t tell a soul.

Ashland: God, you are so beautiful. And you break down all of my willpower. But it won’t work this time.

Victoria: I hope you don’t think that I’m giving up.

Ashland: [ Laughs ] Well, I will rebuff all of your futile attempts to break me down.

Victoria: You’re in rare form today.

Ashland: Well, this is a day that I haven’t had in quite a while. I feel happy and strong, and I think I owe it all to you and my new treatment.

Victoria: Well, then, you know what? You need to take advantage of this energy, don’t you?

Ashland: I plan to. I’m going to dive into some work that I have to catch up on, and then I’m hoping to squeeze in some extra quality time with my gorgeous wife.

Victoria: Well, I like the sound of that.

Ashland: What is on your agenda?

Victoria: Quality time with my amazing husband just moved pretty high up on the list. But I do have a meeting that i have to get to, and at some point I’m gonna have to talk to billy about boarding school for the kids.

Ashland: Oh. Well, that won’t be an easy conversation.

Victoria: We usually agree when it comes to the children, but he’ll feel blindsided by this. And he definitely won’t like that he’s the reason I think they should go away to school.

Victor: So, nikki tells me that victoria is ready to send her two kids to boarding school.

Adam: Tough decision.

Victor: That’s a very tough decision. And I’m not so sure I like it. But I think under the circumstances, it’s the best solution for both katie and johnny.

Adam: Well, at least they won’t have to be subjected to what’s going on with their father.

Victor: Got that right.

Adam: Because what’s happening now is just the beginning.

Victor: Oh, boy. Yeah, but I’ve seen it all before with him. Now he’s drinking. Then the gambling starts. You know? Then it starts going downhill. And then he’ll display an array of erratic behavior, embarrassing himself, embarrassing his family. And then he’ll start blaming everyone else for his mistakes.

Adam: Well, it sounds like billy needs to be put in his place.

Victor: Yeah. I’m afraid you’re right. Most bladder leak pads were similar.

Chloe: Feast your eyes on the new menu and order whatever you think looks good.

Chelsea: So…what else has changed around here? Tell me everything. What’s the latest at newman fashion? It’s been like weeks since i got a real update.

Chloe: Why do you want to know?

Chelsea: Because I want to be kept up to speed?

Chloe: Or because you’re ready to come back to work with me, and you’re excited to dive back into the designing world?

Chelsea: Give a girl a minute to breathe before she makes any major decisions.

Chloe: I have given you months, and I’m just really excited to work with my bestie again.

Chelsea: Well, I would have to meet this sally spectra in person.

Chloe: Well, is working with her going to be a deal breaker, because I am telling you she is really good, and with our combined talents, we are going to be unstoppable.

Chelsea: Hmm. The truth is, connor is my priority right now. And I’m just excited to see him when he gets home from school today. I can’t wait to see the look on his face.

Chloe: And you could just, you know, swing by the office in the meantime and talk with adam about signing on board officially.

Chelsea: I’ll get to adam soon enough. My son comes first.

Victor: So, what are you thinking?

Adam: [ Sighs ] Um…billy’s setting himself up for humiliation. So, if somebody wanted to take advantage of that, they’re making it very easy.

Victor: So, who sent this to you?

Adam: I have no idea. It was anonymous. It’s probably a freelancer that was looking for a payout.

Victor: Did they say what they wanted?

Adam: Nothing.

Victor: You don’t find that odd?

Adam: Well, maybe it’s somebody from billy’s past that wants to take him down a peg or two.

Victor: Have you shown this to anyone?

Adam: I just got it. You’re the only one that’s seen it.

Victor: Be careful, okay? The last thing we need is another greedy, blackmailing bastard like jesse gaines, alright?

Adam: I agree.

Victor: Okay. You keep me informed.

Adam: Will do.

Victor: I have a meeting down the floor, okay?

Adam: Mm-hmm. Interesting info. Who are you, and what do you want?

[ Text message pings ]

I don’t want anything. I just want to help.

Adam: [ Laughs ]

Victoria: Hey, there.

Billy: Hi. Don’t you have a big, fancy conglomerate to rule over?

Victoria: Well, you know, even rulers get coffee breaks. I’m glad I ran into you. I was actually gonna call and see if you had time to meet.

Billy: Oh, I’ve got nothing but time. What’s going on?

Victoria: I, um, I just wanted to see how you were doing.

Billy: Fair to middlin’. I’ll be much better once I get out of here and have a little something stronger to drink than coffee.

Victoria: A little early, don’t you think?

Billy: Oh, I don’t know about that. It’s cocktail hour in paris. Thinking after that, I’ll hit up a poker game and probably lose a small fortune. Then, maybe jump on a private jet and go to vegas and just lose myself entirely because that’s what you expect me to do, right? And I wouldn’t want to disappoint.

Victoria: I’m worried about you falling back into a very dark place.

Billy: But that’s what I do, vic.

Victoria: You know, I really hope that this is your anger talking, but it brings me to the larger reason that I needed to speak with you. It’s about the kids.

Billy: What about the kids? Is everything alright?

Victoria: Yes, everything’s fine. I just think that it would be best for them to go away for a little while after the holidays, to boarding school.

Billy: You think? Or you’ve already decided? Better skin from your body wash?

Chelsea: Hi, nikki.

Nikki: My goodness, chelsea! What a surprise. I-I didn’t know you were coming back to town.

Chelsea: Well, anita’s doing a lot better now. So, she doesn’t need my help anymore.

Nikki: Oh, that’s good to hear.

Chelsea: Yeah. And I — I just miss connor so much. So, the second she gave me her blessing to go, I started packing my bags. Now I’m just counting the minutes till he comes home from school so I can hug him and kiss him and just see what he’s been up to.

Nikki: Well, I know he’s just gonna be thrilled to you see you. But while we’re alone, I’d like to hear more about you. How are you feeling?

Chelsea: I’m great.

Nikki: I guess what I meant to say is, how are you feeling emotionally?

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] I understand why you’d be concerned. But I’ve completed my therapy, and my attorney went to court on my behalf, and all the restrictions have been lifted.

Nikki: Well, that’s reassuring.

Chelsea: I’m feeling very, um, centered, grounded, and although I hated being away from connor for so long, being away from some of the other people in genoa city has been very helpful for my counseling. I’ve been able to focus, you know, on healing.

Nikki: And your doctor is on board with your coming back?

Chelsea: One-hundred percent. I wouldn’t be allowed to be here if he hadn’t approved. He believes I’m ready, and so do I.

Nikki: Well, I’m just so curious. What are your plans and expectations now that you’re home for good?

[ Knock on door ]

Ashland: Come in.

Nate: [ Clears throat ]

Ashland: Oh, if it isn’t my best man. Get in here! It’s so good to see you.

Nate: I just wanted to check in, see how you’re responding to your new treatment.

Ashland: I should have checked in with you earlier. I’ve been so busy around here.

Nate: No, no, no. I understand. I understand.

Ashland: I got the latest test results back.

Nate: And what did they reveal?

Ashland: There’s been no further spread of the cancer.

Nate: Ashland, somebody’s got to teach you how to deliver good news.

Ashland: I’m sorry. When it comes to my health, I’m just a little out of practice.

Nate: This is fantastic!

Ashland: I was almost too afraid to believe it. I’ve been walking that fine line between hopeful and cautious ever since I got back from peru.

Nate: That is great news.

Ashland: Thank you.

Nate: Listen. Elena and I don’t have to be at the hospital till later. If you’re free and have an appetite, we should grab a bite to eat.

Ashland: I would love it.

Nate: How about a double date? That is, if victoria can join us, too.

Ashland: Well, I hope so, but she might not be able to get away.

Victoria: I’ve contacted the school, had interviews, met with the admissions director, and both of the children have been accepted.

Billy: And you did all that on your own, huh?

Victoria: Well, I was kind of hoping that you and I could move forward on this together. Look — I know it’s not easy to hear. I know that. But I really do believe that it’s for the best. There’s been so much family drama, and you’re —

Billy: Yeah, I’m — I’m what, vic?

Victoria: You’re just — you’re obviously going through a lot. I’m simply trying to look out for the kids here. It’s not gonna be forever — maybe till the end of the quarter or perhaps the end of the year. I don’t know. It depends on what’s happening here.

Billy: Hmm. Yeah, okay.

Victoria: And it’s an incredible school, among one of the best in the whole country, with a strenuous academic schedule and spectacular extracurricular activities, small classes. I think the kids are really gonna love it, billy.

[ Sighs ] Look. Please. I-I just want you to consider this before you shoot it down.

Billy: I don’t need any time.

Victoria: Billy —

Billy: No, I think we should do it.

Victoria: What?

Billy: [ Sighs ] I think it’s a good idea.

Victoria: You do?

Billy: Yeah, I’m agreeing with you, vic. You’re still gonna doubt me?

Victoria: I just didn’t expect for you to agree so quickly.

Billy: Well, you know, I’m gonna miss those little munchkins, but it’s probably a good thing that they’re somewhere else for a little while. So, I’ll call the school, and I’ll touch base and make sure everything’s in place.

Victoria: I’m really grateful for the way you’re handling this.

Billy: Yeah, well, don’t read too much into it.

Victoria: Well, what does that mean?

Billy: It means that, you know, this is about the kids, right? It doesn’t mean it’s copacetic between us. I mean, even if you do go buying chanccomm so I don’t have to watch adam bleed it dry, it doesn’t negate everything that’s come before this.

Victoria: Like what?

Billy: Well, like I was dead right about your husband’s past. And, you know, try not to deny it too much, because I know that you were involved with that whole plan to set the trap for me. And that’s what hurts the most, honestly, because that’s what they do. I know that’s what they’re capable of. But what’s disturbing for me is I didn’t think you were capable of that. I thought you were better.

Chloe: Lily, long time no see.

Lily: I know. How are you? How are the kids?

Chloe: Oh, they’re so great. They’re growing like crazy. How about yours?

Lily: They’re good. They’re really good. Enjoy them while they’re young. It goes by very fast.

Chloe: [ Laughs ] I know. I’m really enjoying how easy it is to excite them right now. I just got them some brownies, and I know it’s just gonna make their day.

Lily: Aw, it’s so great being your kid’s hero.

[ Laughs ] Oh, by the way, congratulations on the buzz that sally created for your fashion platform.

Chloe: Oh, yeah. Well, yes, she made victoria’s dress, but let’s hear it for me for hiring her in the first place.

Lily: [ Laughs ] Well, to be a good leader, you have to have an eye for talent. That’s true.

Chloe: Speaking of leadership, congratulations, ms. Future ceo of chancellor industries.

Lily: Yeah, thank you. We’re working out the details, but it’s not that big of a deal, to be honest.

Chloe: [ Laughing ] Wow. Okay, yeah, I mean, I get it.

Lily: [ Laughs ] You get what?

Chloe: Well, like, the low-key thing. You just took this massive step-up in the corporate world, and most people would be screaming it from the rooftops. But, I mean, I get it. For you, it’s a little complicated.

Lily: Uh…why do you say that?

Chloe: Because of billy. I mean, I’m sure he is totally thrilled for you, but knowing billy like I do, I’ll bet that he’s freaking out and swearing vengeance on his enemies.

Elena: Nate, I am so glad you thought of this. And I’m even more glad that we actually all found the time to get together.

Ashland: You know, I’ve learned to make time for moments like this. It took me a while to realize that reading yet another financial report can wait when you have the opportunity to spend time with friends.

Victoria: Hi. I’m so sorry that I’m late.

Ashland: Oh, we’re so glad you could make it, angel.

Victoria: Well, so am I. How are you two doing?

Elena: Good. Hi.

Ashland: I took the liberty of ordering for you.

Victoria: Oh, thank you. So, did I miss anything juicy?

Nate: Oh, we were just talking about how the four of us haven’t had a chance to get together since your wedding.

Victoria: It seems like yesterday.

Elena: It was so beautiful.

Ashland: Almost as beautiful as my bride.

Elena: Aw! You two are both such newlyweds still!

Ashland: That’s exactly how i feel, like a newlywed each and every day.

Victoria: So do I.

Ashland: You know, when i received my diagnosis, I wasn’t sure how much time I had left. Nothing was promised. Nothing was guaranteed. But I made it to my wedding. And I am grateful to have made it through thanksgiving, and now here we are, closing in on christmas with the love of my life.

Chelsea: I thought I made myself perfectly clear. My goal right now is reconnecting with my son, being the best mom I can possibly be, spending the most time with him as possible.

Nikki: And you’ve talked to adam about this?

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] As much as I acknowledge your expertise on the care and handling of all the newman men, what I discuss with adam is my personal, private business. And we’ve got a great deal to discuss.

Adam: The guard at the front

Nikki: Victor, I wasn’t expecting you home for hours.

Adam: The guard at the front gate alerted him that chelsea was on the premises.

Chelsea: No need to sound the alarm. I come in peace.

Adam: No one assumed otherwise.

Chelsea: It’s okay. I understand. I’m actually glad you’re here. We can talk before connor gets out of school.

Victor: This return of yours was quite unexpected.

Chelsea: Yeah. I’m just glad things worked out so I could be home before christmas. I’m excited to spend the holidays with connor.

Nikki: You know, why don’t we give adam and chelsea some privacy so they can catch up, and I’ll fill you in.

Victor: Why don’t we?

Adam: [ Sighs ] Well, connor’s gonna flip when he sees you.

Chelsea: Yeah. Well, that makes two of us.

Adam: He’s missed you.

Chelsea: I’ve missed him. Video chat is not the same as being in person. I just can’t wait to see him and catch up with him, and I have a million questions to ask him and things to tell him. I…

Adam: I just — I wish you’d told me you were coming.

Chelsea: Adam, I tried on more than one occasion, and you were always too busy to talk about it.

Adam: It’s just there’s a lot going on.

Chelsea: You’re busy. I get it.

Adam: I’m sorry that I didn’t make time for you.

Chelsea: Um, so, chloe tells me that there is a war brewing between you and billy?

Adam: That’s chloe for you, always over-exaggerating. It’s just business — nothing more. And it’s unimportant because all that matters right now is what’s going on with you.

Lily: Sorry. So, why are you so interested in billy’s state of mind?

Chloe: I promise I don’t have a hidden agenda. This all comes from a place of concern.

Lily: Okay. So, what are you trying to say?

Chloe: I don’t know all the details, but I do know about the retraction of the story chanccomm published about ashland, who is basically a newman now. And chanccomm is for sale. So, whatever’s going on reeks of world war whatever we’re on, and I’m just a bit nervous about the implications for billy.

Lily: Yeah, but, I mean, that has nothing to do with you.

Chloe: Well, actually, it does… because I always thought that i would be the one who would never be able to get over what happened with adam and my hatred for him. I mean, I wanted him dead, and i was willing to do it.

Lily: Right, but you found a way to coexist with him and even work for him.

Chloe: And victor, too, not that I will ever fully trust either one of them. Look. I will never forget what adam did, but I did find a way to move forward. But billy… I mean, I don’t think that he has ever really found a way to let go of the past, and I just find myself wondering if he’s ever able to really do that. But I don’t know. Maybe — maybe things are different this time.

Lily: And why do you think that?

Chloe: Because of you.

Elena: So, how do you both plan on spending your first christmas together?

Victoria: Well, we’ve decided that we’re gonna stay here in town so that ashland can experience his first newman christmas with the tree and my mom playing carols at the piano.

Nate: Sounds nice.

Ashland: I can’t wait. I fully intend to make this holiday extra special.

Victoria: Oh, is that a hint?

Ashland: No. Well, maybe yes.

Victoria: It is. I knew it.

Elena: A hint for what?

Victoria: Well, ashland says that he has a surprise for me, but he refuses to give me even the slightest hint.

Ashland: Would someone explain to my beautiful wife the concept of a surprise?

Victoria: Wait a second. Ashland trusts you. He confides everything in you. If anyone knows what’s up his sleeve, it’s got to be you.

Nate: Okay, don’t look at me. This is the first I’m hearing about a surprise.

Ashland: You’re just gonna have to practice some patience. What about you two? Got any plans?

Nate: Hmm…work.

Elena: And more work. But I did request to have the same days off as nate. So, hopefully, fingers crossed, we can spend the holiday together.

Nate: Speaking of which…

Elena: Already?

Victoria: Oh, do you have to get back to memorial?

Elena: [ Sighing ] I wish we could stay longer.

Nate: But it’s been nice spending some time with you two.

Ashland: I couldn’t agree more. We have to do this again soon.

Nate: Well, I’d love that. Let’s do it.

Ashland: Well, let’s talk soon, alright?

Nate: Alright.

Elena: Bye.

Elena: We will.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] That was exactly what I needed.

Ashland: Yeah, I could tell something was bothering you as soon as you walked in.

Victoria: Oh, no. Well, I hope that you’re the only one who noticed.

Elena: I sure did, and I am ready to go save some lives. And thank you for waiting. You didn’t have to.

Nate: No problem. You know, if we lived together, I could have reminded you to grab your id before we walked out the door.

Elena: Wait. What?

Nate: You heard me.

Elena: Are you asking me to move in with you?

Chelsea: What do you mean, what have I been up to? I’ve been keeping you updated the whole time I was away. Do you mean to tell me you weren’t paying attention?

Adam: Of course I was. Ask connor. He demanded to know every detail of every conversation. I don’t know. Seeing you in person, it’s different.

Chelsea: How?

Adam: It’s better. You look great. You look happy, confident.

Chelsea: Well, I’m glad to say I am all those things and more.

[ Sighs ] And I know it’s gonna take some time to convince you of that, but for now… I’m just happy to be back.

Adam: I’m glad you’re back, too.

Victoria: Of course. I mean, yeah, I’m relieved that billy seemed okay with the idea to send the kids away to boarding school.

Ashland: Well, then, why did you seem so tense when you arrived?

Victoria: Because it just concerned me that he didn’t put up much of a fight.

Ashland: Mm.

Victoria: I mean, he loves those kids more than anything in the entire world, and I made a unilateral decision to send them away. I blindsided him with the news.

Ashland: Let me get this straight. You’re disappointed that he agreed with you?

Victoria: I know it sounds ridiculous, but he was a class-a jerk for the rest of the conversation. So, his approval, it took me by surprise. I mean, he seemed bent out of shape from the moment I got there, ready for a fight.

Ashland: And you didn’t give him one — good for you.

Victoria: Well, it wasn’t easy holding back. He expressed his extreme disappointment in me and his lingering suspicion and disapproval of you.

Ashland: I’m so sorry you have to contend with that. But we can handle billy.

Victoria: Yes, but I just wish I knew what it was that we’re handling. I’m telling you. There’s something going on with him.

Billy: Being the head of a boarding school, I’m sure you are extremely busy. So, I appreciate you taking the call. Yes, that is the plan. Johnny and katie will be enrolled after the holidays. And to that point, there is something that I wanted to touch base on. I’m not sure if you’re aware, but victoria is a newman, and I’m an abbott. There’s an abundance of media coverage surrounding our families right now. And, you know, we have always gone out of our way to make sure that the children are protected from all of that. And I was hoping that I could get an assurance that you would do the same. Well, that’s great. Yeah, thank you very much. You know, their safety and their happiness is our number-one priority. And, again, no matter what the media is saying is going on back here at home, I would very much appreciate their protection from it.

Chloe: I’m glad billy has you in his life.

Lily: Yeah, I think we’re both lucky to have each other.

Chloe: You do have two very strong attributes in your favor. He clearly adores you, and you’re not a newman.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Well, look. I know billy has had some rough moments in his life, but I think this latest chapter he’ll get through just fine.

Chloe: I know you wouldn’t say that lightly. And loving someone means believing in them. But don’t let it become blind faith.

Lily: I’m not really sure what you mean.

Chloe: Billy is brilliant in his own confounding way, and he has this self-confidence that spills over to the people that care about him. And then they become convinced that he’s got everything under control until they realize that he doesn’t, and it all falls apart.

Lily: Well, I mean, I think those days are behind billy.

Chloe: I hope you’re right. And I really do hope the best for both of you.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Chloe: I guess — I guess i should get going. It was really good to see you, and best of luck with everything.

Lily: Thank you.
