Claire: My favorite greek goddess? Probably athena. Her name means “queen of heaven.” She was zeus’ favorite daughter. She was very powerful. And beloved.

Nadia: What was she the goddess of?

Claire: Wisdom and courage. Especially at war. But she cherished kindness and peace. So that’s kind of ironic, huh? Here. There’s a picture of her with her spear and her helmet and her shield. And sometimes she would use her father’s thunderbolts as weapons when her city was threatened. Athens, greece. Athena. Athens.

Nadia: Oh, that makes sense.

Claire: Right? And athena wasn’t afraid of anything or anyone. Which is kind of amazing, right? To be that brave. So, men would pray to her before they would go into battle or when they faced big challenges. Because it’s hard to do things on your own sometimes, right? And it’s okay to ask for help. And then sometimes, you get to be the fearless one who helps others.

Adam: Morning.

Nick: Hey.

Adam: Where’s dad?

Nick: Uh, I was just wondering that myself.

Adam: What, did you get a summons too?

Nick: Yeah. Sounded urgent.

Adam: Well, I’m surprised that he didn’t beat us here. Any idea what that’s about?

Adam: Jordan? Victoria? Nikki? All of the above? I mean, family’s been taking it from all sides lately.

Nick: I suppose it could be about business.

[ Phones chiming ] From dad. “Unavoidably detained. I’ll be there when I can.”

Adam: Well, that doesn’t sound good.

Victor: Well, thank you for staying on top of this, all right? At least now we know what we’re dealing with. All right, keep me informed. Hi, my sweetheart. How’d you sleep?

Nikki: Not very well. And I would appreciate it if you would stop tiptoeing around me.

Victor: What in the world are you talking about?

Nikki: You ended that call the minute I entered the room. You were talking about me. And we agreed that we wouldn’t keep things from each other.

Victor: Well, my dear, for your information, I wasn’t talking about you, okay? I was talking about jordan. In all my travels I’ve never seen such dry skin.

Announcer: Additional

Nikki: What about jordan?

Victor: My security team has been in touch with the prison authorities, and apparently the fire there was due to arson.

Nikki: Well, I figured that.

Victor: All the bodies have been identified. Of the surviving inmates, six are unaccounted for.

Nikki: She is one of them.

Victor: So it seems. But I do not want you to worry about it, okay? She’ll be found. She’ll slip up somewhere along the line. Then she’ll be recaptured. I promise you.

Nikki: Wishing won’t make it so. We need to turn the tables on her, lure her into some kind of a trap.

Victor: Sweetheart, I have considered that, and I knew that is what you were thinking. But I’m not going to have you use yourself as bait.

Nikki: But I…

Victor: End of discussion. I will not put you in that kind of jeopardy. You’re going to stay here. At the ranch. Work from here.

Nikki: I am not going to let that woman turn me into a prisoner again, locked up in this house. I won’t be able to stand it.

Victor: Sweetheart, you can and you will. Not only to keep you safe from jordan, but also to keep you safe from being tempted by alcohol again.

Nikki: It doesn’t work that way. If an alcoholic is determined to drink, they will find a way.

Victor: Sweetheart, you know damn well that I removed all the alcohol in this house.

Nikki: Yes.

Victor: All right? So there’s no way you can drink. Please go along with me on that.

Nikki: Fine. We’ll do it your way.

Victor: It’s for your own good, sweetheart. Okay. I’ve got to go to the office and deal with a few things.

Nikki: All right.

[ Victor sighs ]

Victor: My baby. Come here. This nightmare will come to an end. I promise you. Okay? I’ll keep in touch with you.

Nikki: Okay.

Claire: This book taught me so much about athena. One time, she and poseidon, the god of the sea, got into a contest.

Claire: Hi. I didn’t see you there.

Victoria: Hi. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt.

Claire: No, not at all. There’s someone I’d like you to meet. Victoria, this is nadia. Next week is her birthday. She’s gonna be seven.

Victoria: Oh. Wow! Well, happy almost birthday, nadia. It’s nice to meet you.

Nadia: Nice to meet you, too.

Claire: Victoria is my mother. She comes to visit me most days like your mom comes to visit you.

Victoria: So, how did you two meet?

Claire: Well, nadia had pneumonia. She’s feeling a lot better, though. And I’ve been taking my walks to the kids’ ward. So, when nadia heard that I have a book of greek mythology that you brought me, she got really excited because she loves stories. So, the staff agreed to let her come to my room so I could show it to her.

Nurse: It’s been very entertaining, but we need to get nadia back to her room.

Claire: Of course. If you’re still here tomorrow, we’ll read some more. Sound good? Cool.

[ Claire chuckles ]

Nadia: Bye.

Claire: Bye.

Victoria: Bye. I had no idea that you were so good with children.

Claire: Neither did I. Uh, yeah, god knows how that happened, since I never really had a childhood.

Victoria: No, no. You didn’T. You didn’t have the life that you deserved at all.

Claire: But seeing the kids, maybe we have something in common. We’re scared to be here, and we’re not in complete control of our lives. But seeing them, it makes me feel stronger. Like they need help, and maybe I can give it.

Victoria: That’s really a wonderful way to look at it. That makes me really happy for them. I’m so proud of you. With moderate to severe plaque psoriasis,

Claire: Being with the kids, it gives me energy. Their minds go in a million directions at once.

Victoria: Oh, yeah, I know.

Claire: If I’m going to keep up, I have to get out of my own head. You know, it’s kind of like they’re the perfect distraction in a way.

Victoria: Yeah, well, I guess kids have a way of doing that.

Claire: Yeah, they want to show me their stuffed animals, or talk about the volunteer who told them all about rocks, or the one who gave out magnets.

Victoria: Oh, they do that?

Claire: Yeah. A lot of people come around to help make things easier on the kids.

Victoria: Huh, well, I guess it’s instinctual to want to make a child happy.

Claire: Not for everyone, but I’m starting to figure out I am the kind of person who wants to make a kid smile if I can. It’s the best therapy possible.

Victoria: Better than your actual therapy?

[ Claire sighs ]

Claire: My daily sessions are– are draining. I just– we talk about the same things over and over again. It’s just the years of misery and– and brainwashing. All the horrible things and all the terrible feelings.

Victoria: I’m sorry.

Claire: I know, I make it sound awful, but I understand why I have to do it. And the harder I work, the harder I want to keep working, so I can get better.

Victoria: We all want that for you. The whole family’s pulling for you, claire.

Victoria: It helps so much to know that. I didn’t know what support looks like until I met you and cole. Is there any news about jordan?

Victoria: I don’t want you to give her another thought. I want you to completely put her out of your mind and just let law enforcement handle things.

Claire: I’m sure it’s going to be fine, I just–

Victoria: You deserve for jordan to be nothing but a distant memory to you. And hopefully one day she won’t even be a memory at all.

Chloe: So you asked me to meet. Does that mean you have some good news for me?

Sally: No good news yet, but I’m sure there will be some down the line. Look, our last project is almost complete, and once we put the finishing touches on it, I really think it’s gonna photograph beautifully.

Chloe: Yeah, I appreciate you putting a spin on it, but that was our last job. We have nothing on deck. So, unless, I don’t know, we can drum up some new business like yesterday…

Sally: We are in serious trouble. Everything we worked for, we– we could lose it all.

Adam: Sure you don’t want a refill?

Nick: No, I’m good. Thanks.

Adam: All right. Suit yourself. Well, since we are stuck here waiting, uh, there’s something that I wanted to run by you.

Nick: Am I gonna like this?

Adam: One way to find out.

Nick: Okay, what do you got?

Victor: Sorry for being late.

Nick: Everything all right?

Victor: Well… men to men, I got some news about the fire in the prison. Apparently it was arson. And that jordan woman is missing. She survived.

Adam: Meaning she escaped.

Victor: Yeah.

Nick: Did jordan plan this? Did she set the fire?

Victor: Well, so far there’s no evidence of that, but I wouldn’t put it past her.

Nick: Well, we have to assume she’s headed this way. And the fact that this woman would commit mass murder for her own selfish ends makes me sick.

Adam: Yeah, I knew that she was dangerous, but man, that is horrific.

Nick: How’s mom?

[ Victor sighs ]

Victor: I told her to stay at the ranch and do work from there.

Nick: I mean, it’s a good plan if she’ll stick to it. We both know mom doesn’t like to feel like she’s trapped.

Victor: I know.

Lauren: Good morning.

Nikki: Oh!

Lauren: Your housekeeper said I could come on back.

Nikki: Lauren! I’m so glad you’re here. Uh, there’s coffee, or if you would prefer something else I–

Lauren: No, no. I’m fine.

Nikki: Well, I am just so grateful that you could step in and help me run newman media. I know how busy you are with ben morris.

Lauren: Oh, well, I’m happy to do it. I know I can’t be a sponsor to you like jack, but I’m happy to be part of your support team. And I love a new challenge. Are you kidding? Not many people can say they work with newman and jabot at the same time.

Nikki: Oh, yes, that’s, uh, that’s true.

Lauren: All right. So, why don’t you bring me up to speed on the projects that audra was working on before she left.

Nikki: Oh, um… well, audra was, uh, focusing on finding new ways for mainstream companies to engage with their customers.

Lauren: Mainstream meaning outside entities or divisions of newman?

Nikki: Um, I– I– I’m- I’m a little hazy on that. I– I’ll get back to you.

Lauren: I can see you’re having a rough morning.

[ Nikki sighs ]

Nikki: Yeah, I guess I am.

Lauren: Do you want to talk about it? Do you want to call jack? I was with him when you texted him to distract victor. I know that you’re struggling. How can I help? Sometimes, the lows of bipolar depression That h

Nikki: Lauren, forgive me.

Nikki: Lauren, forgive me. I appreciate your friendship so much. I– I don’t want to fall apart in front of you.

Lauren: Nikki, you’re going through so much. No apology necessary.

Nikki: Actually, it’s– it’s not even the urge to drink that has me so frazzled. It’s finding out that jordan has escaped, and she’s on the loose.

Lauren: What? There’s proof?

Nikki: Victor just heard. She survived the fire, which was deliberately set, by the way. And now she is nowhere to be found.

Lauren: Well, if that psychopath knows what’s good for her, she will disappear forever.

Nikki: Well, I’m afraid that’s not going to be the case.

Lauren: The way you say that, I– she’s already been calling me, trying to scare me… and she’s doing a damn good job of it.

Lauren: Okay, you don’t give her the power. You are stronger than that.

Nikki: Oh, god, you don’t know how much I’m starting to hate that word.

Lauren: Look, I understand how big and ugly this is. I went through this many times with sheila. They draw their strength on your fear. They wanna control your actions and your emotions by presenting this constant threat. That is how they break you down. That is how they win.

Nikki: You’re right. I can’t let her intimidate me. I won’t give her the satisfaction.

Lauren: Uh, what are you doing?

Nikki: I am looking for her last call. Unfortunately, victor’s security team wasn’t able to trace the number, but I know that it was jordan. She played that music she always plays, a song that I used to strip to.

Lauren: Oh, wow.

Nikki: Jordan thought hearing it would throw me off balance. She doesn’t know me well enough to know that I have no regrets about that time. Now I can return the favor. Hello, jordan. I know you’re there. I just called to let you know that you can’t beat my family. So you can keep playing your little games, play that song, which doesn’t embarrass me in the least, by the way. I think of it as a fight song, an anthem, shall we say. Something that we can play to celebrate your final downfall. Yeah, because it’s coming. You have no allies. Claire has seen the truth about her sick, demented aunt. Oh, you have nothing to say to me? I’m not really surprised. Because in addition to you being insane… you are weak. You’re a coward. And I hope you do try to come and get me right here at the ranch. I hope you break through security, get in this house. Yes, I do. Go ahead. Do it. Give me a chance to cross a line.

Victor: What are you thinking, son?

Nick: I’m thinking I don’t like this. We need some solid plan, something that will eliminate jordan as a threat. I absolutely hate it that this is hanging over our heads. It’s time to act.

Victor: I couldn’t agree more.

Adam: Is there any way to set a trap for her?

Victor: You know, interestingly enough, it’s what nikki suggested. But I will not allow her to use herself as bait.

Nick: Then what are the options? You gonna put guards on her 24/7, trap her inside her own home? She’s gonna flip out, dad.

Adam: From everything that you’ve told me, jordan hates you as much as she hates anyone else.

Victor: I know she does. I’m going to use that to my advantage.

Nick: What the hell does that mean?

Victor: I can’t talk about it until the pieces are in place.

Nick: That is not reassuring, dad.

Victor: Son, rest assured that I will do everything in my power to get rid of that woman.

Adam: Look, if there’s anything that I can do to help, you count me in.

Victor: I appreciate that, son.

Adam: Clearly, you plan to use yourself as some kind of bait, and I don’t support that. But I can understand why you feel the need to do it. So, like adam, you can count on me, too, for whatever you need.

Victor: I appreciate that from both of you. But… this is a battle I have to fight all on my own. I would’ve called yesterday.

Announcer: The young and

the restless will continue.

Chloe: Is there anyone in la that you can reach out to? We can travel.

Sally: Not an option.

Chloe: Burned too many bridges.

Sally: Mm-hmm. What about new york? I mean, it’s been a while, but…

Chloe: Years.

Sally: This is so frustrating. I mean, we’ve done good work. I know we have, and– and the feedback from our clients has been super positive.

Chloe: Yeah, but it hasn’t translated into new work. I mean, we get a nice project, and then it’s just one and done.

Sally: Okay, well, once our photography gets done, we can post it all over creation. We’ll get some social media hits, we could get some features on some design sites. Those bring in clients.

Chloe: Sometimes.

Sally: Yeah, I don’t know. Maybe… maybe it’s too late.

Chloe: No, I just feel like we’re tying ourselves up in knots for no reason. This happens to startups. It’s time to ask the investor for another infusion.

Sally: Go back to nick… hat in hand and ask him for another loan?

Chloe: I mean…

Sally: Absolutely not.

Adam: Well, why don’t you just go ahead and say it?

Nick: What?

Adam: You wish I kept my mouth shut, and I just stayed out of it since I was never on jordan’s hit list.

Nick: What I wish, adam, is that you hadn’t sounded so supportive of dad’s plan without us hearing what it was first. We don’t know what he’s planning. We don’t know how dangerous it is.

Adam: Look, there is nothing that we can do or say that’s going to rein him in. Dad is going to stop jordan if it’s the last thing that he does. It’s a figure of speech. As long as we’re on board, we can help keep him safe.

Nick: Yeah, that’s the only reason I went along with it. Let’s just hope he doesn’t take too many unnecessary risks.

Adam: Well, about all we can do now is wait for dad to finalize his plan and let us in on it if we’re lucky.

Nick: Yeah. Before dad walked in, you said you wanted to talk to me about something. What was it?

Adam: There’s something that, uh… I need to discuss with you before I run it by dad. It’s about sally.

Nick: Adam, if… you’re about to tell me that you’re planning to marry her, there’s no need for that. It doesn’t concern me.

Lauren: Look at you. That was amazing. Putting the fear of god into that monster for a change.

Nikki: Yeah, it felt pretty good. But I doubt anything I said will deter her.

Lauren: Oh, don’t be so sure. You were ferocious. And after what I just witnessed, I don’t envy anyone who would want to cross you or your family.

Victoria: You know, it made me so happy earlier hearing you talk about mythology, knowing that you read the book that I gave you and that it actually meant something to you.

Claire: And you were right about the “newman angle,” victor as zeus, the convoluted family tree, all the nonstop intrigue and infighting.

Victoria: The parallels are very clear.

Claire: Does that make you hena?

Victoria: I have been known to hurl a thunderbolt or two.

[ Claire chuckles ]

Claire: I love your visits. I really look forward to them.

[ Victoria sighs ]

Victoria: Me too. You know, the way I see it… you and I are going through a similar process. Just trying to figure out who we are and what kind of people we want to be. And what we should value, you know, and what we can– we can let fall away. And until I have those answers, there’s nothing that I would rather be focused on than you.

Victor: Hi. Am I interrupting?

Claire: Mr. Newman, no. Hi, come in.

Victoria: Hi, dad. I didn’t expect to see you here.

Victor: I just would like a few moments alone with claire.

Victoria: Um, why is that?

Victor: I just would like to ask her some questions about jordan.

Victoria: Oh, um, you know, I’m not sure if that’s really such a good idea, dad.

Victor: Why not?

Victoria: Well, we were just talking about how we want to put that woman out of our heads for good.

Claire: It’s okay. I have a feeling I know why you’re here. Jordan’s escaped, hasn’t she?

Victor: Um, claire, I was just hoping if you could help us with some clues about jordan’s behavior so we can catch her again, you know? If your moderate to severe crohn’s disease

Claire: I have no idea what jordan might do or where she might go.

Victor: You know that this morning my team got info from the prison. Apparently the fire was arson.

Claire: Then jordan set it. I guarantee you. She probably figured she’d be presumed dead.

Victor: Well, in that case, she’s sorely mistaken. Because the bodies were identified through means of dna. She wasn’t one of the victims. She survived. So she’s a hunted woman again.

Victoria: Okay, but listen to me. There’s a security team in place to keep jordan away from you. So just please don’t give her another thought.

Claire: I think it’s sweet that you’re trying to protect me, but I can handle this conversation. I’m not afraid of jordan, like I told you and cole. And I have no desire to protect her.

Victor: That’s good to know.

Claire: And she knows that. She called me a few days ago and I shut her down immediately.

Victoria: She called you? Here?

Victor: How was that phone call allowed to go through?

Claire: I presume she smuggled in a cell phone so that the prison name and telephone number wouldn’t show up on the caller id. And then she lied to the nurse who brought me the phone saying that she was you.

Victoria: Of course she did.

Victor: Why is this the first time we’re hearing about this?

Claire: I probably should have told you about it sooner. I wasn’t trying to withhold information. I just… I put it out of my mind.

Victoria: What do you mean?

Claire: Well, I told jordan that she could never manipulate me ever again, that I never wanted her to contact me again, and that I wished she was dead. I was furious. She had tricked me. And back in oregon, I had told her that I never wanted to hear from her again, but she found a way to go against my wishes. So I hung up on her. And then when I spoke to my therapist about it, I just– I just shut it out of my mind. And I understand how all of this must sound, but that’s why I didn’t tell you about it sooner.

Victoria: That’s okay. We understand. Don’t we, dad?

Victor: Yes.

Claire: And, mr. Newman, I promise you, if anything else comes to mind, I will tell you right away. I want to help protect the family. Especially nikki. I think about her all the time, and I worry about her and how she’s doing.

Victor: You know, claire, you know that you’re part of the family now. So why don’t you call me victor?

Victoria: That is so sweet of you, dad. Thank you.

Claire: I just wish there was more I could do to help.

Victor: In fact, there is something that you can do.

Claire: Say the word.

Victor: I have a feeling that jordan will call you again.

Claire: Even after how mean I was?

Victor: I bet you she can’t help herself. But if she does, will you kindly give her a message?

Victoria: No, no, no, dad. This is a really bad idea.

Victor: Yes, yes, yes.

Claire: What do you want me to say?

Victor: Kindly tell her that I’m willing to make amends for all the hurt that I’ve caused her sister eve.

Adam: Look, we’re keeping things strictly professional, right? I mean, other than what I’m freaking out about connor, and I need your advice.

Nick: So this concerns sally’s business?

Adam: You funded her venture, and… she has too much pride to admit that things aren’t going well.

> Nick: In what sense?

Adam: Well, in the beginning, there was a flurry of activity and design gigs. But since those projects have wrapped up, it’s been pretty slow.

Nick: That’s the way a lot of new companies are, adam. They spike out of the gate, and eventually things level off.

Adam: Nick, I’ve seen the projections. She’s going to need a lot of cash to keep things afloat.

Nick: If sally needs more capital, all she has to do is come and ask me herself.

Adam: Except she won’T. Besides, my idea isn’t about funneling more cash her way. It’s bigger than that.

Nick: I’m listening.

Adam: At one point, dad offered to create a design division under newman for sally to run, and then he pulled the rug out from under her.

Nick: Yeah, that was, uh, unfortunate.

Adam: No, no, it was rotten. She walked away from a contract with chancellor winters to take the opportunity here at newman, and then he reneged. It was totally unfair. I’m going to ask him to revisit that and actually follow through this time. And she and chloe can fold in under the newman umbrella.

Sally: Forget it, chloe. I’m not going back to nick for more money.

Chloe: Okay, fine.

Sally: I’m surprised that you would even bring it up, honestly. I mean, it’s just wrong on so many levels.

Chloe: Okay, but you and your idiotic return back to adam. That wasn’t wrong. Okay. [ Laughs ] You know what? I don’t want to argue with you about that again. So, um, you know, I’m just not even going to go there.

Sally: Good. Because things with adam are actually going pretty well. So maybe you could just be happy for me as my friend.

Chloe: Yay. But there is one more option to bolster the company we haven’t discussed.

Sally: Which is…

Chloe: Taking on a new partner.

Upbeat music

Sally: A new partner?

Chloe: Someone established with a wider reach and deep pockets. That might be exactly what we need to get over this hump.

Sally: But we would lose control.

Chloe: Okay. Losing some control versus losing the whole company? Is that so bad?

Sally: It’s just– it’s just not what I envisioned. Put it that way.

Chloe: Look, I don’t know what the answer is, but I do know I don’t want to give up on this.

Sally: Well, me either. So let’s just try harder.

Chloe: How?

Sally: I don’t know. We can go to some design publications and ask them for press. We could throw a party. We could design a room for charity house. Offer a coupon.

Chloe: What?

Sally: Okay, no. Not that last one. Look, whatever it takes to get people interested in our services, okay? Because I’m not going back to nick and I refuse to admit defeat.

Nick: Does sally know you’re going to propose this?

Adam: I wanted to know that I had victor’s blessing and that you were amenable before I got her hopes up.

Nick: Smart. Because I highly doubt dad is going to resurrect it.

Adam: Well, that is where you come in. I’m going to need your help to sell this idea to him.

Claire: Why would you try to make amends with jordan? There’s nothing that you could possibly say that would ever make her hate you and your family any less.

Victor: I understand. But do me a favor, just pass it along if you can. If you can’t, I understand. Okay? Meanwhile, thank you for listening to me. Nice to see you again.

Claire: Thanks for visiting.

Victor: All right.

Victoria: Dad. Whatever scheme you have going right now, you cannot use claire as a go-between. I’m not going to allow it. The last thing she needs is more exposure to jordan.

Victor: Sweetheart, listen to me. Your mother is on a binge right now. She’s drinking herself into oblivion, all right? Why? Because that jordan woman is torturing her and will continue to do so. She is our only conduit here, all right?

Victoria: My daughter is a victim, too. Something you seem to keep forgetting.

Victor: I’m merely asking her to pass along a message. That’s all.

Victoria: Dad, even talking to jordan again could cause a setback for her.

Victor: Sweetheart, I’m concerned about your mother, not her. Do you understand? End of discussion.

Claire: You’re upset with me.

Victoria: No.

Claire: And with victor.

Victoria: I just, I wish he hadn’t put you in the middle.

Claire: I’m okay with it. Really, I swear. I doubt jordan’s going to call again, but anything’s possible.

Victoria: This is a terrible idea.

Claire: Actually, I think it makes sense. I– I think he’s setting a trap. It’s a reverse of what jordan did to nikki. Victor doesn’t actually want to make amends. He’s just setting himself up as bait. And if there’s anything I can do to help him catch her and put her away again, then I am more than happy to talk to her one last time. If it means putting an end to this horror show once and for all.

Lauren: Okay, that gives me a good idea of audra’s workload. Although I still have a lot to learn about the media business.

Nikki: Oh, you’ll pick it up fast.

[ Phone rings ] It’s her.

Lauren: Right, you have already said what you need to say to her. There is no reason to pick up that call. And there is no reason to put yourself through what she has planned for you.

Chance: Something’s happened.

[ Summer laughs ] That’s good.

Summer: Yeah.

Chance: That’s you, huh?

[ Summer laughs ]

Summer: Between the clubs there and the yoga retreats and the beaches, I was honestly addicted to that place for a while.

Chance: It’s gorgeous.

Summer: Yeah, it really is.

Chance: I wasn’t talking about the beach.

[ Summer giggles ]

Summer: Okay, what about you? What about you? Is traveling your thing?

Chance: Uh, yeah, yeah, I guess you could say that. Let’s see. I did iraq in the middle east when I was in the army. Spent some time in vegas doing undercover work. Tripped in mallorca. That’s not up for discussion. Sorry.

Summer: Okay.

Chance: Australia when I found out my father wasn’t actually dead after all. Guess you know how that feels, don’t you?

Summer: I do. [ Chuckles ]

Chance: Are you sorry you asked?

Summer: No. I’m fascinated. I mean, I knew that you’d had some wild times, but I didn’t realize they were that wild. Do you ever miss those days?

Chance: You know what? I am happy right where I am.

Phyllis: What do you know? Look at them over there. Together, just as I predicted.

[ Nick sighs ]

[ Audra sighing, moaning ]

Audra: Still glad you chose me?

Tucker: [ Panting ]

Tucker: Well, you’re making a pretty good case for yourself so far.

[ Sighs ]

Tucker: Are you awake? I love you.

Nick” thanks. What do you mean you predicted that? Together now? I mean, didn’t sharon and chance just end things like five minutes ago?

Phyllis: Um, yeah, but, I mean, look at them. Yeah, they are together now. It was obviously going that way. I mean, did you not notice that?

Nick: I mean, yeah, of course I suspected that summer had, you know, a crush on chance, but I knew she had too much integrity to make a move on him while he was with sharon, which I really respected about our daughter.

Phyllis: I did too. I mean, to a point. Sharon and chance, that wasn’t gonna last. It wasn’t gonna go anywhere.

Nick: Because you know them both so well.

Phyllis: Well, they’re not together now, are they? And look at them. They’re having so much fun together. I mean, who can’t notice that? I’m really happy. I’m happy for them.

[ Summer laughing ]

Summer: No, I can’T.

Nick: Summer really does seem happy. I haven’t heard her laugh like that in a long time.

Phyllis: Yeah. She deserves to be happy after everything she’s been through. After everything I’ve put her through, I’ll say it first. Okay. She deserves long-lasting happiness.

Nick: There’s no doubt about that.

Phyllis: I deserve to be happy too. I do. Even though people in this town don’t think so. Whatever. I do deserve to be happy. What about you, nick? Golden boy. The happiness gods have always been smiling upon you. Your life is a constant state of bliss.

[ Nick sighs ] What’s going on with you? Are you happy?

[ Glass shattering ]

Tucker: Goodbye, ashley.

You go to hell! What do you want?

Ashley: I want to talk to you, but not here.

Tucker: What do you want?

Ashley: Listen, it needs to be in private. Let’s go upstairs to your room.

Tucker: No. It’s right here, right now or forget it. ()

Phyllis: It’s been a while since we really touched base, and I want to know if you’re happy. Does that surprise you?

[ Nick sighs ]

Nick: I mean, you get in grooves, phyllis. You know, things that you put all your focus on. Like our daughter’s love life. Uh, diane jenkins, that one’s a real crowd pleaser. Uh, dodging the law.

[ Laughs ] My happiness is not currently on that list. It’s not a complaint. It’s just an observation. Like you said, it’s been a long time.

Phyllis: Do you want to know why?

Nick: Sure.

Phyllis: Because I know that you were very mad at me after I died. And, um… I was nervous to talk to you because your opinion matters to me. Listen, you weren’t blowing up my phone trying to get in touch with me, either, so…

Nick: Yes, there’s kind of been a lot going on.

Phyllis: Like what?

Nick: Nothing I can get into, but trust me, I’ve been busy.

Phyllis: All right. Well, do you want to know what I’ve been wanting to say to you during our last months of silence?

Nick: Yeah, let’s hear it.

Phyllis: That I care about you. And I’ll always care about you. Always. We’ve been in and out of love so many times. For what? The amazing thing we did, so amazing, is create that gorgeous, incredible girl over there.

Nick: Hell yeah, we did.

Phyllis: Yeah. No matter what happens with us, we will always share that bond. Being summer’s parents.

Nick: We will. Whether we like it or not.

[ Both chuckling ]

> Phyllis: So you stopped stalling?

Nick: Um, good. Seriously, I’m in a good place. I can’t help but worry about you, though.

Phyllis: Me? Why?

Nick: I mean, come on, you’re phyllis. When can I not worry about you?

Phyllis: Oh, well, that just goes to show how well you know me, nick.

Nick: Oh, okay. What does that mean?

Phyllis: That means maybe you want to buy me a drink. And I’ll let you know why I’m so deliriously happy.

Nick: Okay. Well, listen, I gotta hear.

Summer: Oh, my god.

Chance: What? What’s wrong?

Summer: Um, don’t look now, but my parents are here.

Chance: Oh, is that– is that a problem?

Summer: Oh, my gosh.

Chance: I mean, from what you said, you and your dad are tight, right? And you managed to make peace with your mom?

Summer: Yeah, that’s true. But they also seem to take some sort of perverse pleasure in knowing all of my business.

Chance: Oh.

Summer: It’s just a little bit much.

Chance: Yeah, I get that. My mom’s not always in town, but near or far, that woman knows all. Hey, at least we got parents that care, right? Not everybody can say that. And I’m not at my debate fault with your parents, because look at the incredible woman

[ Summer laughs ]

Summer: Okay, that’s a very healthy perspective on embarrassing parents. You know what, I’m going to have to start practicing this silver lining mentality of yours.

Chance: Oh, well, you’re in luck, you can start practicing right now, because here they come.

Audra: Tucker? Tucker?

Ashley: It’s irrelevant what happened on my trip to paris.

Tucker: Then why did you need to see me immediately?

Ashley: I wanted to see you face to face and tell you that I have never been more disgusted by anyone’s actions than I am by yours.

[ Tucker laughs ]

Tucker: You woke me up to tell me this?

Ashley: You know, I have accepted the sad fact that I married you, but I will be eternally embarrassed and ashamed that I ever loved you.

Remember

the things you loved…

Ashley: I gotta say, you’ve really outdone yourself this time, tucker.

Tucker: How did I accomplish that?

Ashley: Well, bribing an entire restaurant staff on a completely different continent just to make me think that I’m cuckoo.

Tucker: They all backed up my version of what happened, didn’t they?

Ashley: I know the truth. And I know what I have to do now.

Tucker: Which is?

Ashley: To pr everybody I love, I gotta protect them from you and your poison. But congratulations, because your gaslighting was, you know, somewhat effective. Because my own family is now doubting me. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. You got a lot of pain coming your way, buddy. You got so much pain coming at you. But don’t blame me. You look in the mirror.

Tucker: Gosh, that sounds like a threat, ashley.

Ashley: Oh, it’s definitely a threat. Remember that campaign that I’ve been on to get you and devon to reconcile? Well, that’s off the table. It’s done. It’s gone. I’m gonna do everything in my power to make sure that he cuts you out of his life forever. And dominic’S.

Tucker: I would think twice about that if I were you.

Ashley: Everybody I can get to listen to me, including your bought and paid for loyalist board of directors at glissade. They’re gonna know how vicious you are, how malicious you are. They’re gonna know that. I can’t believe it. Honestly, I– I can’t believe that I ever let myself feel any kind of guilt about you. I thought it was my fault. My fault, that somehow my actions created the rage that you had because of your intense heartbreak.

[ Laughing ]

Tucker: You’re doubting the heartbreak that you caused me?

Ashley: Well–

Tucker: In that case, you really are delusional.

Ashley: Well, well. You can’t break what you don’t have. You don’t have a heart. You are all ego. And that rage in paris was simply your inability to control me and monopolize me.

[ Tucker laughs ] Ye it’s funny, isn’t it? It is. You’re right. Because, um, something happened when i realized that you were actually to blame. Mm-hmm. That guilt I had? Gone. Just like that. Just like that. And you know what was replacing it? Sheer and utter contempt for you.

Tucker: Are you finished?

Ashley: Mm-hmm.

Tucker: Good, because now it’s my turn.

Phyllis: Hey.

Chance: Hi.

Nick: Hi. How’s it going?

Summer: Good.

Chance: Yeah.

Phyllis and nick: Yep.

Phyllis: Saw you two over here and I thought, “oh my gosh, am I dreaming?”

[ Chance laughing ]

Chance: Would you two care to join us?

Phyllis: Sure.

Nick: No, we’re not going to do that, no. No. You guys seem to be having a good time on your, uh… is it a date?

Summer: Thanks, dad. Thank you.

Nick: Okay, uh, goodnight.

Summer: Bye. See you

Chance: See you guys. See? That wasn’t so bad, was it? I mean, from what you said, I was half expecting your dad to pull out the old class photos of you with the nerdy hair and the braces. Well, not that I believe you’ve ever taken a bad photo. I still don’t buy that.

Summer: Nice save. No, we’re just lucky that my dad can actually take a hint. I mean, if we had to sit here, the four of us, while my mom makes all of her subtle comments.

Chance: Why, I’m sorry, I had to make the offer. Very happy with the outcome. It’s just strange seeing them have a peaceful, drama-free drink together.

Chance: You think, uh, maybe they’re on a date?

Summer: No.

Chance: No.

Summer: No, no. I’m sure that they just ran into each other here and my dad couldn’t bring himself to be rude to her.

Summer: Yeah.

Chance: Yeah, he was pretty angry after, uh, you know…

Summer: My mom’s untimely death? Yes. They kept their distance for a while, but I guess this was bound to happen sooner or later. I mean, and it’s– it’s fine. It’s fine. It’s just, um… a little weird.

Phyllis: Here’s a toast to us. Thank you for finding it in your heart to forgive me. You know, for the whole diane jenkins-jeremy stark debacle. I don’t know if I would be able to do the same for you, so…

Nick: What summer went through, it changed her forever, phyllis, and she never should have gone through that, but she did. And honestly, it’s been very hard for me to let all that go. But I would like to, for all our sakes. I won’t let me moderate to severe plaque psoriasis

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Summer: And so I told harrison that he had had enough cookies before bedtime, right? And I took them away from him, and he got so mad at me. He just– he put his hands on his hips and he said, “fine. “Then I’m gonna go “waste toothpaste.” And he just stormed out of the room, went upstairs, and I was just like… I went and I checked on him after a while, and… the little guy had just gone straight to bed. He looked so sweet, and I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know if I should scold him for talking back to me, or if I should thank him for not wasting toothpaste. I was stumped.

Chance: Yeah, I love it. I love it. They always know how to get to you, don’t they?

Summer: Right?

Chance: I just took dominic shopping the other day, and we go by this store, and there was this insane drum set in the window, right? I’m talking recording studio quality, thousands of dollars, the real deal. Kid takes one look at it, and of course he has to have it. And of course, hell.

Summer: When they throw a fit in public, it’s always a fun one.

Chance: Oh, my gosh, and this wasn’t even a fit. It was like a world-class tantrum. Right? He lost it. And I look at him, and I’m like, buddy, you’re not gonna get what you want acting like that. And it was like a light switch. Kid turned into the most loving, carefree, sweetest kid on the face of the earth.

Summer: Did you get him the drum set?

Chance: In his dreams, no. Are you kidding me? Abby would kill me, first of all. And I’m not about to spend ten or 12 car payments on something he’s gonna lose interest in in like a week. But I mean, talk about not knowing what to do. I was stumped, and it was my own fault. I set myself up for that.

Summer: No, I always feel like an idiot when stuff like that happens.

Chance: There’s nothing like getting outsmarted by a kid who doesn’t even come up to your knees, right? You know what we have to look forward to, though?

Summer: No, what?

Chance: We can use all this as fodder to embarrass them when they have kids of their own.

Summer: I’ve thought of that. That and karma.

Chance: Oh.

Summer: Wait a second. Is this our payback for what we put our parents through when we were growing up?

[ Chance chuckles ]

Nick: You know, I’m not gonna minimize it. It took a lot of hard work to get over what you did to your family. I mean, collapsing at the gala. Setting up the fake ambulance crash was really something. And then just getting over the idea of never being able to see you again. Then, of course, uh, framing diane for supposedly poisoning you.

Phyllis: We don’t have to relive this, right? And listen, I’ll regret what I did every single minute of my life. And I’ll also be grateful to you every single minute of my life for getting our daughter through that.

Nick: Well, you should save that gratitude for summer. I followed her cues. I mean, I figured if summer and daniel could get over what you did to your family– they were the two that were hurt by far the most– then why should I not be able to follow their lead?

Phyllis: You give me more credit than I deserve.

Nick: Your kids are amazing people. But you need to give yourself some credit too, phyllis. I can see you making some changes to try to become a better person.

Phyllis: You do? Really?

Nick: I do. It’s sort of interesting timing because I’M… choosing to believe the same thing about my brother right now. That he’s also making some changes and decisions to try and better himself.

Phyllis: Okay. Hey, while, I really appreciate that you don’t think I’m a lost cause, you’re comparing me to adam.

[ Both laugh ] I don’t know. I want to ask you, do you ever wish that maybe you were a little more like adam?

[ Nick scoffs ]

Nick: Oh, come on. So you were offended that I ever compared you to adam, but I’m just supposed to be okay with you comparing me to him? Well, it must be difficult for you… being looked at by your friends and family as… the righteous newman. You know, the good one, the solid one. It doesn’t leave a lot of room for mistakes.

Nick: I thought that I bought you a drink so we could talk about you, not so that you could analyze me and try to convince me I’m some sort of wannabe bad boy.

Phyllis: I’m not analyzing you. They’re just questions I wanted to ask. It’s been a long time.

Nick: Well, I’m done with the questions. I have one more question.

[ Nick sighs ]

Nick: Okay. One more. One more and that’s it. Sally spectra.

Nick: It’s not a question.

Phyllis: What happened? What is that? Was that really a thing?

Nick: She’s smart. She’s beautiful. She’s unpredictable. You really find it hard to believe that I would go for that type? Look, I think you’re deflecting. Let’s just stop dancing around and be straight with each other.

Chance: How are you and kyle doing with the whole co-parenting situation? I know that’s tough.

Summer: We’re doing okay. At it. We’re civil. We don’t speak badly of each other in front of harrison. I worry about kyle though.

Chance: Yeah? What’s going on with him?

Summer: I mean, he doesn’t confide in me at all, but I just get a sense that he’S… disillusioned or something. I mean, I let him down, and jack kept me on at marchetti and let him go, and now he’s been passed up for the co-ceo spot at his own family’s company twice. He just keeps on making all these dumb moves, like getting involved with audra charles. And I just, I hate to see what’s happening to him. And there’s nothing that I can do. All I can do is just watch from a distance and… hope for the best.

Chance: Yeah, that’s hard. I know. I know you obviously still care about him, too. Um… tell me if I’m crossing a line here by asking this, but… do you ever regret that your marriage didn’t work out?

Summer: I will always care about kyle. But… regret? I think I’ve come to realize that regret is just… wasted energy. Life’s hard. People disappoint each other. And I don’t know, I think the best you can do is recognize your mistakes and own up to it and… try not to make the same ones again.

Chance: I like the way you think.

Tucker: I swear on the soul of my grandchild that I did not bribe, uh, threaten, or–

[ Ashley sighs heavily ] Or do anything to coerce that waitstaff to get them to say what I wanted them to say. If they backed up my version of what happened, it’s because it’s the truth. It is what happened. And, frankly, I’m saddened by the fact that this is how you decided to play this. That you couldn’t just… be satisfied walking away in any things with me. You had to have scorched earth. You had to come up with this ugly fiction about me. And then convince yourself that it was the, uh, the noble, righteous, abbott thing to do.

Ashley: There it is. I knew you wouldn’t be able to help yourself. You can’t attack me, can you, without going after my family.

Tucker: I don’t know what’s going on with you, ashley. I don’T. But it’s something, and I think maybe you need to seek professional help to figure out what it is.

Ashley: Oh, really?

Audra: There you are. I woke up and you weren’t there. Last thing I expected was to find you with the woman who put you through such hell. Alice loves the scent of gain so much,

she wished there was a way to

make it last longer.

Ashley: Oh, so this is why we couldn’t have our conversation up in your room– ’cause it would have been very private.

Tucker: And?

Audra: Is there a problem, ashley?

[ Laughs]

Ashley: Am I supposed to be shocked that the two of you are sleeping together? I an, really? But you do know, audra, that you are just one on a very, very long list of tucker’s hookups, right? But isn’t it a little soon? I mean, are the papers even drawn up yet for our–

Tucker: Need I remind you that you’re the one who dumped me?

Ashley: Oh, yeah.

Tucker: And you didn’t exactly put up a fight when I started those annulment proceedings, did you? Did you expect me to just sit alone in my room for the rest of my life, pining over you?

Ashley: God, no. I don’t even know why I bother to have this conversation. Here’s your problem now. Good luck with that. But, audra, quick question. Were you sleeping with tucker the same time you were sleeping with kyle? Classy. You two deserve each other.

Audra: Wow.

Chance: Thank you. So what about you and abby? Have you guys found a comfortable balance with dom and that whole ugly breakup?

Chance: I think so. You know, I won’t lie to you. It hurt being betrayed like that. Took me some time to get past, but I think in the end, I did learn from it too.

Summer: Tell me.

Chance: Um… well, I learned that you can’t force love. You know, hearts are unpredictable. And they’re uncontrollable. They want what they want when they want it. Logic plays no part. And you know what? I think you’re right. What’s the point of regret? I mean, what does that get you other than nowhere?

Summer: You know what? I like the way you think too.

Nick: I really cared about sally. Still care about her. She, uh… it killed me when that relationship ended.

Phyllis: What ended it?

Nick: I mean, what else? Adam. Her feelings for him that she couldn’t let go of.

Phyllis: She chose adam over you? Really? Oh, wow. Well, they deserve each other. They’re actually perfect for each other. How you doing now? Post-breakup.

Nick: Fine, fine. I’m back on track, you know, focusing on family and work.

Phyllis: That’s nice. That’s nice to hear.

Nick: Yeah, how about you? How are these, uh, life changes going, and are you sticking to them?

Phyllis: Yeah. Yeah, I am. Um, it’s going well. I also think… I found peace with a certain someone.

Nick: Are we talking about… danny romilotti?

Phyllis: Yes.

Nick: Okay.

Phyllis: Why? Do you have a problem with that?

Nick: I’m surprised, you know, that danny would feel comfortable with you, considering, you know, your history.

Phyllis: Well, he doesn’t feel uncomfortable with me. He sees that I’ve changed. He sees how hard I’m trying, and he validates that. I’ve changed a lot because of him actually.

Phyllis: Okay. Well, then I really hope it works out for you. I mean that. Type 2 diabetes?

Summer: Well, good night.

Chance: Yeah, it’s good seeing you two.

Nick: Same to you. I love you, super girl.

Summer: Love you. Love you, mom.

Phyllis: Love you. You two are adorable, by the way. Just saying. So cute. Yeah.

Nick: Very subtle.

Phyllis: I– oh, I don’t– I can’t help it. It’s just how I feel it came out.

Summer: Thank you. And thank you for dinner.

Chance: Well, thank you for a terrific and interesting evening. I like learning more about you. You know, how you think, the way you feel.

Summer: Right back at you.

[ Summer giggles ]

Phyllis: Are you as happy for them as I am?

Nick: Yes, I am. It’s just hard for me to see her start a new relationship so soon. Look, she’s a grown woman. She’s a mother. She has an amazing career. But I’m never not gonna look at her like she’s not our little girl who needs me to protect her.

Phyllis: So sweet. I get that. I feel the same way. But, you know, I can see in your eyes how proud you are of her.

Nick: Unbelievably proud of her– you’re right. But just so you know, I’m never gonna be okay with seeing her kiss a man.

Phyllis: Okay. So, here’s to us. And finally finding our happy places.

Nick: All right.

Audra: What the hell just happened down there?

Tucker: Yeah. I’m sorry you had to witness any of it. Ashley’s obviously further gone than even I realized.

Audra: What does that mean?

Tucker: Well, she has heard the truth from several witnesses about what happened between us in paris. And yet she refuses to believe it, and… not only that, she seems hell-bent on coming up with whatever conspiracy theory it takes to paint me as the villain. I think something’s really wrong with her.

Audra: Well, to be honest, I don’t care. I couldn’t be less interested in what ashley thinks about anything. No, I’d much rather hear how you managed to get out of this bed to the bar with your ex-wife. Yeah, I’m hoping you’ll say that you just went down there for a drink and had no idea you’d run into her.

Tucker: She texted me. And she said she needed to see me immediately.

Audra: And you couldn’t resist?

Tucker: No. I couldn’T. But it’s not because I wanted to hear what she had to say. It’s because I thought it was high time she heard from me that I’m officially moving on for good.

Audra: And how did she react?

[ Tucker sighs heavily ]

Tucker: Not well. She, uh… she was fine with ending things with me, but she went a step further. And she’s now threatened to keep devon out of my life forever. And dominic.

Audra: Well, that’s pretty petty and vindictive for an ice queen like her. But she’s not the type for idle threats. You know, maybe she’ll want to recruit abby to help her go through with this.

Tucker: She can recruit whoever the hell she wants. It’s not gonna work. I’ll be damned if I let her keep my son out of my life and my grandson. You can believe that.

Audra: Hey, just out of curiosity, uh, did you tell her about us?

Tucker: I didn’t have to. You took care of that. Rather effectively, I might add.

Audra: Would you have told her if I hadn’t shown up?

Tucker: Absolutely. Ashley is old news, honey. You’re my future now.

[ Glasses clink ]

Tucker: I’m done.

[ Glass clatters ]

Goodbye, ashley.

Go to hell.

Traci: Ashley? Oh, I’m so glad you’re home. Are you okay?

Ashley: I don’t know what’s happening to me, traci.

Billy: Hey.

Chelsea: Hey.

Billy: How are you? I got your message. You seemed a little upset.

Chelsea: I just got off the phone with the teachers at connor’s school. They were giving me details about what’s been going on with him.

Billy: Okay. What’d they say?

Chelsea: The news was much worse than I thought.

Victor: Okay, my sweet baby. This will do you good, okay?

Nikki: Thank you.

Victor: There we go. There we go.

Victoria: Oh, good, you’re both here. Um, I wanted to drop by and… mom, are you okay?

Victor: She’s okay. She’s just a little bit under the weather, okay?

Nikki: Actually, things are not okay. They’re bad. Very bad. I had my worst stumble yet, and this one really scared me.

Audra: She’s home? Who, tucker? Ashley? Oh, my god. You just can’t let go of her, can you? You are obsessed. No matter what you say, she’s got you completely spellbound. You know, in all of your talk about trust, all your meant-to-be and I choose you, and you have the nerve to pull this.

Ashley: What’s going on? Why do we have to wait for traci to have a family discussion? Just tell me. How insulting is this, that you look at each other like that? Is this an intervention? It’s starting to feel like an intervention.

Jack: You are jumping to conclusions, blowing this way out of proportion.

Ashley: Is that what I’m doing? Really? Well, obviously, you’re concerned about me. Okay, so what did traci tell you about paris? That tucker bribed the waiter? I told you that.

Jack: No, there was more to it than that.

Ashley: And what was that, jack?

Jack: Traci spoke to the rest of the waitstaff at the cafe.

Ashley: Really? And they backed up my version of events?

Jack: No, none of them could recall tucker being physically violent. They remembered the altercation, but there was no verification of physical violence.

Ashley: Wow. Okay, so he– he obviously got to the entire restaurant staff. That bastard. He bought off the whole staff. I mean, to get them to lie for him, he is unbelievable.

Announcer: Additional

sponsorship provided by… blue-emu gave me my hobbies back.

Ashley: Don’t tell me that you’re, um, buying tucker’s bs. I mean, have you forgotten who we’re talking about here? You, diane, more than anybody, understands what he’s capable of, right? Didn’t he blackmail you into trying to take over jabot? Blackmail, lies, deception. This is his M.O.

Traci: Ashley. Oh, I’m so glad to see you home safe. I’m sorry it took so long.

Jack: No, it’s all right. I already filled ashley in.

Traci: What?

Ashley: You questioned the rest of the restaurant staff without me? And then you came back here and you told everybody but me? Why? Why did you go behind my back like that?

Tucker: Audra, you’re misinterpreting this. Yes, I did want to know when ashley was back from paris, but not because of any obsession with her.

Audra: No? Then why? What difference does it make to you where she is if you want nothing more to do with her?

Tucker: Because if I know where she is–

Audra: You know, it’s– it’s one thing to not trust each other completely in business, but it is an absolute nonstarter for you to continue breaking your promises on a personal level. You’re supposed to be done with that woman.

Tucker: I am done with her. Completely. You are the one I want to be with, but–

Audra: Oh, yeah? Or am I actually just the one who’s available? Admit it, tucker. You know, all your romantic pleas to me were just because you can’t have the woman you actually want and your ego can’t stand it.

Tucker: Would you let– may I speak, please?

Audra: You know, I have kept my distance from you, tucker. Sex? Sure. You know, actual intimacy? No. Until now. I have broken every single one of my rules because I wanted to believe you meant what you said.

Tucker: Okay, would you let me speak now? There’s only one reason I want to know when she’s back from paris.

Audra: And that is?

Tucker: To avoid her. So we can avoid this. So that nothing interferes with my focus on you. I want to know where she is so I can do whatever I need to do to avoid running into her. Period.

Audra: Do you honestly expect me to believe that? You know, I wouldn’t be surprised if you want to know where she is because you just can’t wait to see her again.

Tucker: Yeah, but then you don’t know me at all. Because the truth is, I’ve had it with her. I’ve just– I’m sick to death of the constant arguments, the accusations, the insistence that I’m gaslighting her. I am crossing the street. I just– I don’t want her interfering. I don’t want her getting in the way of what you and I have.

Billy: Okay, so let me– let me hear it. What did they say about connor?

Chelsea: He’s struggling, billy. And I don’t know how to help him.

Billy: Struggling in what way?

Chelsea: In all of his classes. The teachers, they say that they’re observing him, but he’s having trouble focusing. He– he can’t pay attention to things. They think it’s maybe nerves or anxiety, and it’s seeping into his every day. They say it could be like a processing disorder or something, and that’s why he’s distracted in class.

Billy: But he’s never dealt with anything like that before?

Chelsea: No. He always got great grades, and none of the other schools ever reported anything like this. They said he’s not eating, and they said they don’t think he’s sleeping because he looks so tired. And um, and they also said he’s washing his hands all the time and using sanitizer.

Billy: What’s that all about? Like he doesn’t want to get sickand miss more time and fall further behind?

Chelsea: They don’t know. They just want me to talk to the on-campus therapist.

Billy: Okay. Look, I know how hard this is, okay? It always is with kids. Just take a deep breath. You’re gonna get him through this? What can I do to help get you through this?

Victoria: Stumbled? Mom, what happened?

[ Nikki sighing ]

Nikki: I had a terrible relapse.

Victoria: Because of jordan and what she did to you?

Nikki: I’m dealing with it. I just had a moment of fear and panic, and I made a bad mistake.

Victoria: How did this happen?

Victor: Apparently, it was the news of the fire at the correction facility. And the possibility that that jordan woman might have escaped.

Nikki: She has escaped. You knew about the incident at the prison?

Victoria: I did. But, mom, we only kept it from you because we were trying to protect you.

Nikki: So you two thought that you would just keep me in the dark? This woman has tried to kill me twice and you thought that I didn’t need to know she was on the loose?

Victoria: After everything that’s happened, we didn’t want to upset you anymore.

Victor: Sweetheart, I don’t want you to continue worrying about this. Even if she escaped, I’m going to make absolutely sure she’s not gonna come anywhere near this house.

Nikki: It’s too late. I’m telling you, she has escaped.

Victor: How do you know that? She could’ve– she could’ve died in the fire.

Nikki: No, she didn’T. I have proof that she is alive, and she is still very much out for revenge. No two bodies are the same.

Victoria: Proof?

Victor: Sweetheart, please answer us. Have you seen her or heard from her without telling me about it?

Nikki: I’ve been getting those phone calls again, and at first, when I would answer, nobody would be there. But this morning, I got another one with that same song playing.

Victor: Is it possible you imagined that call?

Nikki: No, victor. I have no doubt in my mind. I heard that music on my phone, just as I know it’s jordan who is behind it. I know I have given you reason to question my clarity, but you’re gonna have to believe me on this.

Victor: Sweetheart, if this is true, then now more than ever, you cannot allow her to push your buttons.

Victoria: Exactly, mom. You are stronger than she is. And if she is out there, jordan is weak and she’s desperate. She’s out of money. I mean, she’s a criminal with entire police departments after her. But you have us. You’re here. You’re safe with us. We love you.

Victor: Sweetheart, think about it. You have an advantage. You’re safe here. Certainly safer than you were while she trapped you in that room.

Victoria: That’s right. There is absolutely nothing that she can do to hurt you. She’s the vulnerable one, not you.

Nikki: Thank you for believing in me. I love you for it. But right now, I– I need to get some rest. I need to close my eyes and forget that this day ever happened. I’ll be stronger after I get some sleep. But first, I have a confession to make.

Chelsea: I know connor is at the right school to deal with whatever this is. And I just have to focus on staying positive and being proactive. Adam’s doing the same, actually.

Billy: That’s great. I think it’s important that you and adam are on the same page.

Chelsea: Absolutely. Our main focus will always be our son. I think this is just the aftermath for connor of everything he had to deal with last year.

Billy: Right.

Chelsea: My trauma, finding out johnny was his half-brother. I mean, that is so much for a little kid.

Billy: Moving to a new city, starting a new school. That’s a huge transitional year for you.

Chelsea: And, you know, adam and I, of course, want to run straight to the school, but they told us to wait. They think it’ll freak out connor and give him more to stress about.

Billy: I think that’s a good call.

Chelsea: And in the meantime, I called my therapist and she was very helpful.

Billy: Wow. Look at you, on top of it all, cool, calm, and collected.

Chelsea: I don’t think a year ago this time, I could have been. Actually, I know a year ago this time, I couldn’t have been.

Billy: A year ago, you were in a different place. Look at you now.

Chelsea: Wow. A lot of that is thanks to you. You changed my life.

Billy: You changed my life. For the better. Across the board.

Chelsea: Oh. Well, enough about me.

Billy: There you go.

Chelsea: Enough about me. I want to hear about you. What is going on in that head of yours?

Billy: Ooh. Hm… you really want to go there? I don’t know if you, uh, if you can handle that.

Chelsea: Oh, I can handle it. Tell me everything.

Traci: Believe me, I didn’t want to keep this from you any longer than I had to. I honestly thought it would be better for you to be here, surrounded by family when you heard what I learned.

Ashley: Why? Why did you think that I’m so fragile that I’m not going to be able to handle this?

Traci: We all need each other. There is nothing weak in that. Besides, I wanted you as far away from that place as possible. It’s why I tried to talk you into coming home with me right away. Ashley, I thought the family family could discuss the ramifications of all this.

Ashley: Okay, the only ramifications here is that it proves the lengths that tucker will go to to make me think that I’m imagining things. I mean, clearly, he has taken gaslighting to a completely different level. Who does that? Would you please stop looking at each other like that? Just stop it! You’re trying to make me think I’m wrong! I’m not wrong! He’s gaslighting me, but clearly he’s gotten to you. You guys know what he’s capable of! Why are you doubting me? Skin-carving next level hydration?

Ashley: Okay. How hard woulde an entire restaurant staff? It wouldn’t be hard at all. Second nature for him. And easy money for them.

Jack: No one is doubting that it’s possible. I think what traci’s trying to say is that–

Ashley: I think traci can speak for herself.

Traci: I can. I offered them even more money. The entire bistro staff. I know. It’s awful and it’s outrageous. And for you, I did it anyway. I offered them twice as much as tucker had paid them, if they would just tell the truth. All they had to do was say that they had been bribed. And do you know what, ashley? Not one person took it. Because they refused to lie.

Ashley: Are you done? Because that’S… sorry, it’s just not that amazing. I mean, obviously, he paid them a lot of money.

Traci: Well, why would they take his money and not take mine? Tucker would never find out. What do they have to gain for lying for him?

Ashley: I don’t know, traci. He’s powerful. He threatened them. He’s rich. They caved. It happens.

Traci: All of those people, they were so believable. Not one of them was nervous or– or intimidated. You, on the other hand, had a flicker of doubt when we talked to that first waiter. When he said that there was no violence, you got this look on your face, like you were remembering something. Not the something that you have told us about.

Ashley: Oh, really? I got a flicker? Come on. I don’t doubt anything now and I didn’t doubt anything then. I can’t believe you’re taking tucker’s side. I can’t believe this is happening. I– I– I– I’m just being let down by my family in– in the most painful way.

Audra: You’re going to have to do a lot more than cross the street to avoid running into ashley in this town. You know, think about it. Neither of us has a kitchen in our suite, which means we eat out on a regular basis. So, unless you want to have room service for every meal, we are bound to run into your ex plenty.

Tucker: That’s a possibility.

Audra: No, definitely. You know, every day will be another reminder. And every time we run into ashley, I’ll see the love-hate written all over your face. And each time, I’ll trust you less and less. I’ll constantly be questioning where your true heart lies.

Tucker: You know what we should do? We should buy our own restaurant. Yeah, just get a private chef and one table. One lone, candle-lit table for two.

Audra: Yeah, a very practical solution. You know, I can see you’re taking this very seriously.

Tucker: Well, I am serious. You know I would do it happily. Just to make you happy. Anything and everything you want.

Audra: But I do, you know, I get it.

Tucker: What?

Audra: You know, I can see how you’d be sick of ashley’s constant accusations. To be quite honest, I’m sick of her too. Let’s not argue about ashley anymore, okay?

Tucker: Yes, please.

Audra: You know, but I can’t help wondering what she learned in paris. You know, from that tense run-in with her sister, it seems there’s no avoiding the truth anymore. You know, maybe that’ll shut down ashley for good now.

Billy: What’s going on in my head? Let’s see. Um, oh yeah, I had a very interesting, not interesting, typically abrasive encounter with tucker at the gcac.

Chelsea: Really? What was he so abrasive about this time?Bly: This guy, he’s– he’s– he’s incredible, you know? He– he feels like he has the right to ask about my sister’s whereabouts after everything that he’s done to her, after the way that he’s treated her. Took everything in me not to reach across the bar and deck him. You know, he’s like, “did it ever occur to you that ashley’s the one coming after me? You know, she went to paris to find dirt on– on me. I’m trying to, I don’t want to know where she is so she doesn’t come, so I can steer clear of her.” Something to that effect. And of course, I called him out on being a victim. “I’m not a victim. I’ve never been a victim. But I’m always prepared if someone tries to make me one.”

[ Chelsea laughing ] He did say something to me as he walked away, something that stuck with me.

Chelsea: Oh, what was that?

Billy: He accused me of being power-hungry. And he would actually enjoy watching me pull jabot into chancellor-winters.

Chelsea: Oh, well that’s crazy. I mean, you would never try something like that, right? Try to take over your family’s company from the outside?

Victor: What’s the confession you have to make?

Nikki: I bought a bottle of vodka. The pull was too great and I couldn’t resist.

Victoria: Mom, I hate that you’re going through that. It’s terrible. But it’s really good that you’re– you’re telling us.

Nikki: And then I heard somebody coming, so I hid it in here. But when I came back to look for it, it was gone.

Victor: Sweetheart, I had our staff make a sweep of the whole house, okay? I had them remove every bottle of booze.

Nikki: I understand why you did that, but I have to do this on my own. Getting rid of all the alcohol in the house is just a short-term solution. I need to do the work. I– I need to build the strength to resist it, but I’m not there yet.

Victoria: No one’s pushing you.

Victor: Sweetheart, you’ll be all right. I promise you.

Nikki: Thank you for understanding. And victor, thank you for understanding about jack. All right, good night.

Victoria: Good night, mom. Get some rest.

Nikki: Good night.

Victoria: What did she mean by that? Thanking you for understanding about jack?

Victor: Well, she asked jack abbott to be her sponsor. And although I don’t like the idea at all, I went along with it because your mother is obviously very fragile right now. My mom’s alzheimer’s never changed how much we love her.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Victoria: Jack is mom’s sponsor now?

Victor: I was worried about your mother, so I had my men follow her. They found her on the outskirts of town. At some dive.

Victoria: Oh, no. Was she there drinking alone?

Victor: Yeah. Meanwhile, jack abbott informed me that he had become your mother’s sponsor after that first guy, seth, fell off the wagon himself.

Victoria: So, mom asked jack to take over?

Victor: Yeah.

Victoria: So, he’s the one who told you about this, and not mom?

Victor: Yeah. He and I went out there to find her.

Victoria: Daddy, how bad was she?

Victor: Ah, she was passed out at a table.

Victoria: Oh, no.

[ Victoria sighing ] For her to go this far. In public, no less.

Victor: Yep. But don’t you worry about it. I made sure that the incident was kept quiet. But you know, the long and the short of it is that jack abbott allowed her to drink herself into oblivion.

Victoria: Daddy, it’s not fair to blame jack. I mean, did he even know where mom was when he called you?

Victor: What difference does that make? He covered for her anyway.

Victoria: Look, I know that. But look, if mom asked jack to keep his sponsorship quiet, he was just protecting her wishes, that’s all.

Victor: Sweetheart, the responsibility of a sponsor is to keep her from drinking.

Jack: Ashley, no one here is taking tucker’s side on this or anything else.

Ashley: It seems like you definitely are. And it’s so incredibly, incredibly painful to think that you would believe him over me.

Jack: That is simply not the case. Whatever happened in paris doesn’t matter. As long as whatever happened propelled you to end this marriage and walk away from tucker for good.

Traci: No, jack, I’m sorry, but I disagree. What happened in paris, the truth is the most important thing.

Jack: No, the most important thing is it opened ashley’s eyes.

Ashley: The most important thing is that I’m being betrayed by my family. Can’t you see that?

Traci: No, ashley, no. We love you. We just want to help you move on from this.

Ashley: Move on from what? From all these lies and– and betrayal that is coming at me from all sides? I came home with– I thought I was going to get your love and support, you know? And instead, I’m just being attacked with accusations and suspicions. Are you questioning my sanity? Is that what’s happening here? Oh, oh, my god.

Jack: Ash.

Traci: No, ashley, please don’t go. Wait just a minute.

Jack: Ash, wait.

Diane: Guys, just let her go and maybe calm down a little bit. The last thing we need is to make matters worse. That’s why I didn’t say anything. But now I’ve got to ask, what– what was the point of all that?

Billy: Going after jabot is out there thinking. Not even something that I would consider doing.

Chelsea: Then why did tucker’s comments stick with you so much?

Billy: Well, he made me think about my relationship with chancellor-winters.

Chelsea: How so?

Billy: My mother, jill abbott, brought me over there in the co-ceo position so I could represent her interest in the c-suite. In a company that she owns half of, yet she’s– she’s not in the corporate name.

Chelsea: So, what’s your point?

Billy: Again, going after jabot, that seems pointless. But I do believe that abbott should have more of a representation in the chancellor-winters corporate name.

Chelsea: So, what are you saying? You want to change the name?

Billy: Not change it. Add to it. I think part of the reason why my mother feels so isolated is because she’s not properly represented.

Chelsea: And you’re thinking…

Billy: I think, in all fairness, the company should be called abbott-winters. Who says you can’t go for bold

Chelsea: What about the chancellor name? I mean, that’s the company’s root. The core of it all, right? Not to mention it’s a lasting tribute to the grand dame, kay chancellor.

Billy: Yeah, no, you got a point there. What about, um, what about acw? Abbott, chancellor, winters.

Chelsea: Hm… can we get back to this brain of yours? I have a feeling this isn’t just about representing jill. This is about you too, isn’t it? You want to stake a claim on this company.

Victor: I mean, regardless of how I feel about jack abbott’s involvement, I didn’t argue with your mother, given her fragile state.

Victoria: So, you’ve accepted jack’s role in helping mom?

Victor: It’s what she wants.

Victoria: I think that that’s probably the right call to make.

Victor: Yeah. But I told him if there’s no significant progress, it’s over.

Victoria: What if she doesn’t improve? Do you think we ought to consider rehab?

Victor: I’ve thought about that. But, you know, given the possibility that jordan woman is out there, I’d rather have her here at home.

Victoria: Oh, yeah. I understand that. But speaking of jordan, has there been any news at all? I mean, do you think that it’s possible that she’s out there somewhere, plotting revenge? I mean, what if– what if she is the one making those calls to mom?

[ Victor sighing ]

Nikki: No. No! No!

[ Nikki panting ]

Diane: Listen, the issue isn’t what happened in paris. The most important thing is that ashley has finally broken free of tucker. That’s what matters most.

Jack: That’s what I was trying to impress on her.

Diane: Yes, but she wasou finally got to that, she couldn’t even hear it.

Traci: What are you trying to say, diane? That we are wrong to have tried to get to the truth with our sister?

Diane: No, that’s not what I was saying at all.

Traci: Oh, good. Because I have seen firsthand this is tearing her apart. And for whatever reason, she will not let it drop.

Jack: Look, tucker’s denial has clearly rattled her.

Traci: Jack, listen to me. I am so worried about her. I’m– I’m afraid that something else is going on. Her recollection of things, it’s confused, to say the least. That’s why I wanted us all together so that we could help her try to make some sense of this. So that she can go on with her life.

Diane: Yes, but it only made matters worse. Now, ashley is even more upset. You saw that. Look, I know the two of you are really worried about her, but what just happened was completely counterproductive.

Traci: Oh, diane.

Jack: We just– we just need to give ashley some time, some space. Just as diane suggested. And traci, you’re right. I don’t know if tucker is playing her and it’s getting to her or if she is truly confused about what actually happened to her. Either way, it is tearing her apart.

Traci: Yes, jack. And there is only one thing that is going to help ashley move forward and let all this go. That is for ashley to find out the truth, whatever that may be, so that tucker can’t use it against her anymore.

Tucker: Frankly, I don’t care what’s going on with ashley. My focus is now entirely on you.

Audra: Does that mean I now have your full attention?

Tucker: Every bit of it. I’m sorry, audra.

Audra: For what?

Tucker: How blind I’ve been. All this time I thought it was her, I thought it was ashley. What was good and true in my life. I just couldn’t see it. It was you. All this time. You’re my best friend. It’s you.

[ Banging on door ]

Ashley: Tucker! It’s ashley! Open the door!

[ Banging on door ] Damn it! Open the door!

Rsv is out there.

Billy: I really feel like I’m finding my groove. It’s been great, and you know, it’s nice to be back. And of course, there’s pressure, but it’s the good kind of pressure. It’s not like jabot where I feel like I have to constantly prove myself to jack. You know, I’m really building a future here, and I like it.

Chelsea: Great. Sounds like you made the right move then.

Billy: I think so. You know, most of my life, I’ve tried to protect my father’s legacy. The best thing about this is this is about my mother. She’s asked me to be her eyes and ears and protect her stake. What better way to do that than to put her name, her legacy, on the letterhead?

Chelsea: Hm… well, is that gonna fly with lily and devon? Granted, jill owns 50% of the company, but sharing the letterhead with a third name?

Billy: But that’s my point. My mother is committed to this company, and this is about protecting her legacy. It’s not about me, you know? This isn’t a power grab. It’s not about me seeing my name up in lights.

Chelsea: Absolutely. I mean, you have to admit, it is a little convenient, though. I mean, you do share the same name.

Billy: Well, yeah. She’s my mother. The more I think about this, the more I think it’s the right thing to do. She’s earned it. She deserves it.

Victor: Unfortunately, there’s no news about jordan’s whereabouts. Cheers.

Victoria: So, it could be her calling mom?

Victor: Yeah.

Victoria: You know, claire said something disturbing today.

Victor: What’s that?

Victoria: When we were discussing the fire, she said that jordan once said something about if things ever got chancy, that fire makes a wonderful distraction. Or something along those lines.

Victor: Oh, boy. Oh, boy, oh, boy. Well, I will soon know who perished in that fire and who survived.

Victoria: What if jordan’s not accounted for?

Victor: A nightmare. But I assure you that I will do everything in my power to make certain that she does not come near this house.

Jack: Nikki, where are you? You okay?

Nikki: Yeah, I’m home. I’m safe. I just wanted to let you know that I’m not angry at you for telling victor. I– I understand why you felt you had to do that.

Jack: I’m glad to hear that. He needed to know.

Nikki: This is the worst day I’ve had since this whole nightmare started. And I’m really worried that I’m not gonna be able to overcome it.

Jack: Hey, don’t talk like that. One step at a time, remember? And I’m your sponsor. Victor knows that. There’s no need to hide it.

Nikki: Yeah, that’s a relief.

Jack: I can come to the ranch any time you need me. Just call. Listen to me, you’re not gonna give up. I’m not going to let you. You are going to win this fight.

Nikki: I need help.

Jack: I know. And I’m here for you whenever you need me. Just call.

Phyllis: Oh, my goodness, well look at you. You can’t deny you have feelings wow. Well, what’s going on with the two of you is exactly what’s going on with me and Danny. How come you can’t accept that?

Daniel: We’re not talking about my situation right now.

Phyllis: Oh, oh, there’s a situation? I didn’t know there was a situation. Well, that must be really awkward. You know, lily and all.

Daniel: Okay, this is about you making problems for dad and for Christine. It just– it feels like you’re up to your old tricks, mom. It feels– it feels like you’re being the aggressor. It feels like you’re not having any respect for anybody’s boundaries. And this is supposed to be you on your best behavior.

Phyllis: What’s going on here? Is someone in your ear? I can’t imagine who. There is nothing like that going on between me and Danny. The pull is completely mutual, okay? There’s no aggression.

Daniel: Okay, okay. You saying he’s gonna wake up one day and realize that the two of you are meant to be together? What’s that?

Phyllis: Fate, destiny.

Daniel: No, no, it feels more like ego. It feels more like ancient history. It feels like you being more concerned about beating Christine than any feelings you might actually have for dad.

Danny: Cricket, wow. What brings you here?

**************************************

Tucker: The only reason I ask about her and if she’s back, is because I wanna avoid running into her.

Billy: Oh yeah, right.

Tucker: You know, she went to Paris to gather ammunition to use against me.

Billy: You mean to defend herself against you?

Tucker: No, sir. No, she is the angry one in search of retribution. I just want to steer clear of her and protect myself against whatever attack she has planned next.

Billy: And you still have the audacity to paint yourself as the victim here.

Tucker: That’s something I will never be. Anyone’s victim. I am prepared for someone to try to make me one, however.

Billy: Right, prepared in the same way that you were with the press and how they were gonna trash you about the cover-up scandal?

Tucker: Here I am, I’m still standing. I don’t share your knack for failure.

Billy: Well, actually, tucker, my days of failure are over. Yeah, I’m on top of the world now. Running a very successful company, in a stable and loving relationship. Two amazing kids that actually like me that think I’m a fantastic dad.

Tucker: And modest, too.

Billy: I have all the things you will never have. Because you’re too self-absorbed to actually be in a compassionate relationship that has a give and a take. ‘Cause all you do is take, tucker.

[ Billy clicks tongue ] Poor you. Always on the outside of everything that matters in life.

Phyllis: Diane.

Diane: Phyllis.

Phyllis: You’re looking lovely. It’s a lovely necklace.

Diane: Well, thank you. You’re looking lovely as well.

Phyllis: Thank you.

Diane: Yeah.

Phyllis: Some people are saying that I have a special glow these days.

Diane: Oh, really? Well, I would love to hear all about that glow. But I’m so busy myself, I’m always almost late for a meeting. I’m sorry to be abrupt.

Phyllis: Oh, no. Nothing you do or say could change my mood right now.

Diane: Oh, well, then maybe this is a good time to tell you my good news.

Phyllis: Oh. Tell away.

Diane: I got a promotion.

Phyllis: Great.

Diane: Yeah.

Phyllis: Good. What are you, head of rubber band balls? Or you got my old position at Marchetti home, following in my footsteps. I love that journey for you.

Diane: Well, actually, my new position isn’t nearly as small as your old division. I’m running jabot. All of it, side by side with my husband.

******************************************

Phyllis: You’re running jabot with jack.

Diane: Co-CEOs. Does it get any better?

Phyllis: Unbelievable.

Diane: Yeah, I knew you’d be thrilled.

Phyllis: When does karma play a part?

Diane: Oh, I think I’m exactly where I should be.

Phyllis: Well, exactly where you schemed to be when you came back from the dead.

Diane: Oh, my god, we’re not going to revisit the whole back from the dead thing, are we? Talk about following in footsteps.

Phyllis: It’s really impressive, though, because you got exactly what you went for, didn’t you? Jack’s ring on your finger and his company under your thumb.

Diane: For your information, I didn’t scheme to get here. I begged jack to rehire Kyle as co-CEO, but he just insisted that I was perfect for the job, and Kyle agreed.

Phyllis: Through no manipulation of your own, I’m sure.

Diane: You know, your glow seems to have faded. Are you okay?

Phyllis: Oh, it’s definitely not faded, but thanks. There’s actually a special someone in my life who cares for me. It’s a great feeling. It’s so much better than being offered a pity position by my husband.

Audra: It only matters if you let your obsession with Ashley distract you from your ultimate goal. Again.

Tucker: Ashley, Ashley. You’re obsessed with her.

Audra: Oh, don’t.

Tucker: Who’s jealous now?

Audra: Uh-uh, I’m not playing this little game with you.

Tucker: Mm. I’m not playing games either. I don’t have time for games.

Audra: Look, this idea of yours is a massive undertaking. If you can pull it off. And I agree. It would be a dream position for me. But where do you expect to get all the capital to scoop up all these companies?

Tucker: I’ve never had any problem raising capital.

Audra: Really now?

Tucker: Really. Mm-hmm. There’s a sea of it out there.

Audra: Mm.

Tucker: And I’m fishing with dynamite. That’s the fun part.

Audra: Oh.

Tucker: So, we talk business now?

*************** *****†*************

Nikki: Oh, hi. I hope you’re coming for me, Jordan. Yes, that’s right. I dare you. Because it’ll be the biggest, worst mistake you’ve ever made. I’ll wait for ya. Bitch. I’ll be waiting. I’m waiting. Okay, when you turn around, you’re gonna see someone.

Jack: Well, I can give you a few reasons. I think he’s fond of you. You’ve never been married to Nikki and you’ve never been his sworn enemy for years on end.

Lauren: Well, that’s true. You got me there.

Jack: You’re tough and you know what she’s up against. Look, if you’d agree to this, I’m sure victor would not object.

Lauren: You’ve really thought this through.

Jack: I can’t help being protective, of both of you.

Lauren: And that means more to me than I can say. You know, I’ve been blessed with a very incredible management team who’s excellent at day-to-day, so I could step in for a little bit and still be available for the big things..

Jack: Is this sounding like a yes?

Lauren: Oh, well, I need to know how Nikki feels. Have you even run this by her? I mean, is she going to be amenable or is she going to see this for what it really is? Me watching her to make sure she doesn’t take that first drink.

*************************************************

Nick: No, no. I don’t take much credit for that.

Adam: Come on. You are the common denominator. You must have done something right.

Nick: Thanks. Might be the most sincere compliment you’ve ever given me.

Audra: Are you staring at me to distract from the fact that Devon’s over there ignoring you?

Tucker: Is Devon here? Ah, there he is. What do you know?

Audra: Yeah, very funny.

Tucker: I only have eyes for you right now.

[ Audra chuckles ]

Audra: Sorry, but this just doesn’t sound like the Tucker I know.

Audra: I– I feel a shift in our dynamic. I just hope it lasts.**

Tucker: “A shift in our dynamic,” wow. You’re such a poet, Audra. I think you’re still on guard about Ashley.

Audra: Oh, god. Yeah, well, I know you very well. And I’m realistic. So, yes, I am on guard.

Tucker: Give me your hand. Give me your hand. I meant what I said upstairs. I choose you in all ways possible. It’s you and me from now on.

**********************************************

Sharon: Are you and Devon having some kind of a conflict? Because if there’s going to be issues before this partnership even gets off the ground–

Billy: It’s nothing like that. We’re just figuring out how to work together again. That’s all it is.

Sharon: As long as it’s not going to be contentious.

Billy: It’s all about collaboration for me.

Sharon: Uh-huh.

Billy: Look, if I get my feathers ruffled because of a missed meeting, that’s one thing. I just don’t want it to get to my mother, okay? So, I will remind Devon that I need to be kept in the loop. Other than that, everything is going to be just great.

Christine: I came to see you. The run-in with phyllis. I couldn’t leave things between us like that.

>>: Danny: Yeah, it, um, it wasn’t fun for me either.

Christine: I know. We– we just need to clear the air. Can we go inside and talk?

Diane: Hey. I saw victor’s car was gone. I assumed it was safe to return.

Jack: Yeah, he took nikki back home.

Diane: How’d it go?

Jack: Well, she’s not as furious with me as she was. I thought she’d never forgive me. The look on her face when she saw me standing there with victor at the bar, I will never forget.

Diane: Well, I’m sure when she thought about it, she realized that you were only looking out for her.

Jack: She insisted I remain her sponsor.

Diane: Really? How did victor take that?

Jack: Well, she had to fight him on it, but he agreed.

Diane: Hm… you know, it’s touching, actually. His love for nikki transcends his animosity towards you. He realizes that you can help her. I just hope the truce will last as long as nikki needs you.

Jack: Well, don’t get me wrong, he’s no fan of the arrangement. In fact, his blessing came with a clear warning. Anything happens to nikki on my watch, he’ll see that I pay for it.

[ Audra sighs ]

Audra: Thank you.

Nate: May I join you?

Audra: I’m not expecting anyone.

Nate: Not even tucker? I’m surprised.

Audra: And why is that?

Nate: Oh, every time I see you two together, it’s like you’re growing closer.

Audra: Keeping an eye on me, are you?

Nate: I’m just curious how your new game plan is going. Is public handholding a part of your new scheme? Or are you actually falling under the guy’s spell?

Tucker: Hey, billy.

[ Billy sighs ]

Billy: And here I was, enjoying a nice, quiet drink alone.

Tucker: No, I don’t want to join you. I was just wondering, is ashley back from paris yet? ‘Cause I thought she came back with traci, but the word on the street is she stayed.

Billy: Yeah, well, my sister’s whereabouts is none of your business, tucker.

Tucker: In this particular instance, I must beg to differ.

Billy: No, in any and all instances, it’s none of your business, okay? She’s done with you. So, why don’t you just move on with your life? Oh, that’s right, you can’T. Because you’re a bitter, hollow man that feeds on anger and retribution.

Waiter: I’m sorry, madam, I don’t recall a broken glass or an overturned chair. Only that the gentleman got quite loud, he made a scene and then he stormed out.

Ashley: No.

Tucker: I’m done. You go to hell!

Ashley: Okay.

Tucker: Have you convinced yourself that I was actually violent in paris?

Ashley: Don’t you dare try to gaslight me. That’s exactly what happened, and you know it.

Tucker: No, ashley, at the very least, you’re misremembering. I’m done. Goodbye, ashley. Go to hell. I told myself I was ok

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by… now I can be myself again.

Diane: Are you worried about victor’s threat?

Jack: Oh, god, I’m not intimidated by victor. I just care about helping nikki.

Diane: And I’m sure you will. So where do you go from here?

Jack: Well, I’m glad everything’s out in the open. Won’t have to sneak around behind victor’s back anymore.

Diane: Yeah, hopefully, that will make her feel more at ease about reaching out to you.

Jack: You have been very supportive in all this. I know it hasn’t been easy. I love you for it.

Diane: Thanks. But I do have to ask you something, and I want you to be honest.

Jack: Ask.

Diane: Jack, do you really think you can help save nikki from all of this? Or is she too far gone?

Tucker: Thank you. If I may say, billy, you got a lot of anger.

[ Tucker scoffs ] I think you might want to look into that.

Billy: Well, it pisses me off that you think you deserve any information about my sister when the truth is she should have a restraining order against you.

Audra: You know, why do you care about the state of my relationship with tucker? Okay, you made it clear you are happy where you are. Okay, you have no interest in any plan I may have in the works. You are just so content to bask in the glow of your cousin’s forgiveness. No other ambitions.

Nate: Going in for the kill so I won’t notice the dodge. You’re falling for the guy. Well, I hope it doesn’t cloud your judgment too much. Or you may find yourself out of yet another job.

Mamie: Hello, nate.

Nate: Hey, aunt mamie, how are you? Uh, you want to find a table? It’s getting a little crowded over here.

Audra: Um, actually, I’m just leaving, so why don’t you take my seat?

Mamie: Well, I wouldn’t want to rush you out or anything.

Audra: Oh, no, no, not at all. And, um, nate, don’t worry about me. I know exactly what I’m doing. I have my eyes wide open.

Mamie: What the heck was that all about?

Danny: You know, I was just on my way to the recording studio.

Christine: Okay, it won’t take long.

Danny: I don’t want to trouble daniel, you know. He’s home and I…

Christine: Are you making excuses?

Danny: I don’t feel like I should have to. I mean, I made my feelings perfectly clear.

Christine: I know you want to take a step back. But, you know, we were in the middle of a very honest moment when phyllis barged in, insinuating herself.

Danny: This is the kind of argument that I just don’t want to get into.

Christine: Neither do I, danny, but I just want to finish the important conversation we were having. Don’t we owe each other that much?

Danny: Yeah, okay, um… one coffee, and then I really have to get to work.

Christine: Sure. Thanks.

Phyllis: I can’t believe you’d say that to me. I would never be so careless with your father’s feelings because of some petty feud. I’m actually hurt that you would think that of me.

Daniel: No, no, don’t do that. Don’t– don’t play the wounded act. Look, I saw your little social media post, okay? You’re not fooling anyone. That feeling you get when your ex plays you a love song. Come on, what is that?

Phyllis: It’s– it’s just social media. It was a beautiful song, daniel. Who wouldn’t melt from that?

Daniel: And that’s okay. It’s okay to feel that way. But when you take something and you post it on social media like that, and you tag dad for everybody else to see, including christine, especially christine, it just– it seems like a calculated move.

Phyllis: Maybe I was just happy in the moment and I wanted to share it. Sue me. I mean, I don’t understand why you have such a problem of your father and me reconnecting. I don’t get that.

Daniel: Because you guys were never that way before.

Phyllis: So what? I– I know it’s odd that two people who aren’t together but share a child would reconnect after having problems in the past. I know that’s odd.

Daniel: Okay, no, no, no, no, no, don’t– don’t do that. Don’t compare–

Phyllis: Don’t compare you to heather?

Daniel: Yeah, no, don’T.

Phyllis: Yeah, I am. I’m comparing you and heather to me. We are in the same situation. With daisy sour cream every bite gets better

Daniel: No, no, no, no. I’m not gonna let you drag my personal relationship into this. This is about you. This is about you doing whatever it takes to get whatever you want with a blatant disregard for other people.

Phyllis: Okay, well, I’m not gonna apologize for going after what I want, okay? I’m not ashamed for going after love, and I couldn’t care one bit about what christine feels about it and how she wants to stop it.

Daniel: That’s literally all you care about. That’s literally all you care about.

Phyllis: But you know what? I care about building something with your father. That’s it. It’s something special. How often does that come around in life?

Daniel: It just really feels like the golden opportunity here for you, is to make problems for christine. And then rub her face in it. And it feels like besting your old rival is the only thing that makes you happy.

Phyllis: I– I actually can’t believe that’s how you feel about me.

Daniel: It’s hard to feel any different from your actions.

Phyllis: Okay, my actions from before. The old phyllis. That person. Not the new phyllis. How come you can’t accept who I am now?

Daniel: Because I– because I need to see some actual change. You’ve talked a good game for summer’s and my sake, but I don’t see any difference.

Nate: Audra’s making a deal with the devil?

Mamie: I don’t suppose that you were referring to jill.

Nate: Tucker mccall.

Mamie: She works for him.

Nate: Among other things. I’ve been trying to figure out what her end game is, if she’s actually partnering with him or has her own scheme going.

Mamie: And this matters to you because?

Nate: We were colleagues, aunt mamie. I considered her a friend. But I am done worrying about her. If that’s who she chooses to throw in with, then…

Mamie: You know, the woman reminds me of a young jill abbott. Ambitious, but scheming. Nothing but a whole lot of trouble.

Nate: You’re a sharp judge of character.

Mamie: And an accurate one. You stay away from that one, you hear me? Well, on a lighter note. I’ve also been right about you. Bringing you back into the family business has just been the very best decision.

Nate: It’s been fun being back. And working with devon this time is much smoother. I’m looking forward to building on that when lily returns.

Mamie: Looks like everything is going just right for you right now.

Nate: Well, it seems to be.

Mamie: And I do have one question. How are you getting along with billy?

Tucker: You’re right.

[ Tucker clears throat ] I am self-absorbed.

Billy: Hm… honesty from you, that’s actually refreshing.

Tucker: But it’s the secret to my success. And of course, it’s a prerequisite to self-preservation.

Billy: It’s sad that you actually believe that, tucker.

[ Tucker scoffs ]

Tucker: You can stop with the high and mighty billy routine. It’s getting pretty insufferable.

Billy: Not as bad as being lectured by you.

Tucker: Yeah, but the whole moral superiority act. It’s such a crock because we both know underneath it all, you’re as ruthless as they come. How long before you need your next fix? Huh? Before you start jonesing for that next big win? Yeah. I bet you don’t hesitate for a second and use your new position to get it, too.

Billy: I don’t need the power in the way you do.

Tucker: Hey, maybe you’ll be the one to take over jabot.

Billy: And why the hell would I do that?

Tucker: What better way to best jack? Now, that’s a takeover I would enjoy watching unfold. See you around.

Jack: I don’t believe anybody’s so far gone with addiction that they can’t be saved, but nikki is facing so much. One of the people that set this whole god-awful spiral in motion is her granddaughter.

Diane: I know, it’s– it’s a lot. I mean, she has to deal with all those complicated feelings and try to maintain her sobriety.

Jack: And there’s her fear that this woman who masterminded this whole vendetta against nikki and her family may be on the loose.

Diane: Jack, what if by helping nikki, you’re putting yourself in harm’s way from some psychopath?

Jack: Victor has his security team on full alert.

Diane: Well, I’m sure he does, but that probably doesn’t apply to you.

Jack: We have security of our own, believe me. I just wanna be there for nikki when she needs me. I gotta help her conquer this.

Diane: And I love that about you. You know, there’s one more thing that’s been bothering me.

Jack: Tell me.

Diane: Well, you’ve been so caught up in nikki’s crisis that it has to have had an impact on you.

Jack: It has been horrible watching her go through this.

Diane: Yeah, so I– I need to know. With– with all the stress, have you been tempted at all to start using again yourself? Before my doctor and I chose breztri for my copd,

Jack: I promise you, I have not been tempted to start taking pain pills again.

Diane: Would you tell me if you had been?

Jack: Absolutely, you have my word on that. I hate that we’re even talking about this.

Diane: Well, how can I not be? I mean, you’ve– you’ve admitted how stressful it is to see nikki going through this.

Jack: That only strengthens my resolve to stay clean. You have to believe that.

Diane: Okay. Okay, I do. I just– I just want you to know that you can confide in me if that changes for you. I mean, jack, you don’t have to protect me. I just– I don’t know, I just– I just wanna be here for you in– in any way that I can be through this.

Jack: I don’t doubt that for one second. And I am eternally grateful. You are my rock.

Christine: You didn’t mean what you said earlier. You think I don’t want you to be friends with phyllis?

Danny: You don’T. You know you don’T.

Christine: I– I just don’t understand how this has become an issue other than that’s exactly what she wanted.

Danny: Chris, let’s not do this.

Christine: Danny, I felt what was happening between us was real. That we were getting closer. You made the sauce.

Danny: Yeah, I– I did.

Christine: And ever since phyllis found out that we were spending more time together, she’s just been throwing herself at you.

Danny: Now, come on, I– I wouldn’t categorize it like that.

Christine: Okay, well then how would you describe what’s going on?

Danny: It’s exactly as I told you. I have feelings for both of you but in completely different ways. And then all of a sudden, this whole thing blew up, okay? Again.

Christine: It’s just so obvious that she’s going after you as a slap in the face to me.

Danny: Because of course she could never have legitimate feelings for me.

Christine: Come on, this isn’t a slight against you, okay? This is about phyllis, who is incapable of having any real feelings. She is a narcissist. This is about winning.

Danny: Okay, this is exactly why I can’t do this, all right? I am simply this chess piece in this battle between the two of you. This is about you and phyllis and your hatred for each other. And you know what? I am sick of being stuck in the middle.

Phyllis: Well, love, I mean, if I haven’t changed, why are you even talking to me? Why am I wasting my time trying to reconnect with you? I mean, why are you dealing with me? Why don’t you just cut me off?

Daniel: Because you’re my mother. Because you’re my mother and I love you and I am trying to salvage our relationship. And I keep trying to guide you in the right direction, but you keep derailing yourself and that is so frustrating to watch over and over again.

Phyllis: Can you hear how condescending that is and degrading? Oh, I’m trying to– to guide my mom and correct her at all times. Seriously, I shouldn’t have even come here to see you.

Daniel: Come here to see me? You didn’t come here to see me, you came here to see dad. Let’s be honest about that. Because you will not stop until you get whatever it is that you want. And you’ve got the poor guy tied up in knots now.

Phyllis: Did danny say that?

Daniel: Oh, my god, oh, my god. You are not even listening to me, are you? I hate seeing dad this way.

Phyllis: What about me? You don’t hate seeing me this way? Seriously? It is like a dagger in my heart that you are pulling for christine over me.

Daniel: Christine and dad actually have a relationship. You guys– you guys– no.

Phyllis: No. Your dad and I have a connection that is growing every single day. Choose christine to be with your dad over me. Do you know how much that kills me? Your own mother. Your father and I actually have a chance at something this time without her interfering. We actually do. And you are proof that we make magic together. But you want me to step aside because, oh, I don’t know, it’s the right thing to do.

Daniel: No, no, that is not what I’m saying. You are twisting my words around.

Phyllis: Yeah, when I see lucy, when I see her look at you with so much love in her eyes, it kills me. It kills me. And she so desperately wants you and heather back together. It warms my heart actually, but it breaks my heart because you don’t want the same thing for me. I don’t wanna have dinner with you.

Daniel: Mom. Mom, don’t leave. Come on. Hey! I would’ve called yesterday.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue. Do I love speed walking?…

Nate: Things with billy are fine.

Mamie: Just fine?

Nate: We’re civil. Maybe a little strained, but nothing I see as an issue.

Mamie: Well, I would like to suggest that you put a little bit more effort into this business relationship. Matter of fact, I think that you should make billy your new best friend.

Nate: Yeah, that would require more than a little effort. Why? What are you after?

Mamie: We need to know what billy, more importantly, what jill– what they’re up to.

Nate: And that makes me think you’re trying to stir things up, aunt mamie. Can you even name a single move that jill has made that indicates she’s at war with you?

Mamie: Then why do you think that she brought billy in as co-ceo?

Nate: Because billy was already coming on board. The timing just happened to work out with lily’s leave of absence.

Mamie: Honey, there’s more to it than that. Jill is feeling outnumbered. She had to bring her family on board so that she could balance things out.

Nate: Okay, and if it makes you feel better, what’s the matter?

Mamie: She lured billy and chance. Oh, you do know that he’s personally grooming him, right? Clearly. Jill has plans to install him in yet another high-level position. She is threatened by me, and she is just trying to shore up her reinforcements.

Nate: Aunt mamie, please, don’t do this.

Mamie: I do this to protect you and your cousins’ legacy. I do this to take care of you, which you don’t seem to be able to do yourself. Damn right, I’m worried, and you and devon should be as well.

Billy: Worried? About what?

[ Phone chiming ]

Tucker: Let me know when she gets to her house.

[ Knock on door ] Yes, I was hoping it was you.

Audra: Before you get that look in your eyes, this is about work.

Tucker: What look? You just made my heart race again, is all. What’s on your mind?

Audra: Well, you know, I’ve been doing some digging on those cosmetic businesses you want to acquire, the ones you want to fold into glissade. And two of them definitely have questionable financials.

Tucker: Do they now?

Audra: Yes, we’d be taking on junk debt. Two of them are over-leveraged.

Tucker: Well, that is unacceptable.

Audra: You know, I’m surprised you didn’t catch it. But of course, I found two more viable companies.

Tucker: Of course, you did. You know, I– I knew they were duds. I was just– I was curious to see if you’d catch it and, uh, come up with alternatives. Gold star for you.

Audra: So you weren’t testing my analysis skills. You were testing my loyalty.

Jack: Ash.

Ashley: Hi.

Jack: You’re back.

Ashley: Yeah. You sound surprised.

Jack: Well, from what traci said, I thought maybe you would stay in paris indefinitely.

Ashley: Why would I do that? This is my home, right?

Jack: You have no idea how relieved I am to hear you say that.

Ashley: Well, I just needed a moment to kind of shake off all that anger I was feeling towards tucker after his latest move.

Diane: And were you able to?

Ashley: Not exactly. Did traci tell you what he did? That bastard actually bribed the waiter at the cafe to back up his version of events.

Jack: Yeah, she, uh, she mentioned that.

Ashley: I mean, how twisted could one person be, right? What’s that about?

Jack: What?

Diane: Nothing.

Jack: No, we’re– we’re just concerned about you. And happy to have you home.

Ashley: What aren’t you telling me? Hey… it’s me! Your dry skin!

Jack: I think we should all talk together, as a family.

Ashley: So talk.

Jack: Well, traci’s out with a friend. She’ll be back soon.

Ashley: We spent a lot of time together in paris. We’re all caught up, traci and I.

Jack: Well, I’m sure she’d like to be part of this. I don’t want to speak for her. And maybe abby would like to be part of the discussion.

Ashley: Why are we including abby in any of this?

Jack: Because she’s your daughter and she’s concerned.

Ashley: About what? Okay, what the hell is going on? What do we suddenly have to discuss as a family?

Jack: You.

Nate: My aunt mamie seems to believe the only reason jill brought you back to chancellor-winters is as the first step in some sort of power play against her. And I’ve been trying to tell her she’s wrong. You agree, right?

Billy: Mamie’s a shrewd woman. Your rivalry with my mother has gone on for years, so your– your fear is understandable.

Mamie: Oh, so you’re admitting that you were brought on to shore up jill’s power.

Billy: Well, I’ve worked with chancellor-winters in the past.

Nate: Exactly what I told her.

Billy: But you’re right. Originally, jill brought me into chancellor-winters to make sure that chancellor is protected. She also believes we need as many recruits as possible because of the threat that tucker poses.

Nate: Yes, exactly. We’re all trying to work together against any outside threats. And you don’t want to start an internal war now, do you?

Billy: No, no, no. Of course not.

Nate: Okay.

Billy: No one wants that.

Nate: So, are you trying to smooth the way over with jill the way I am with my aunt mamie?

Billy: Unfortunately, I can’t do that.

Nate: Why not?

Billy: Because I agree with my mother. Mamie is the one who’s a threat.

Christine: Hatred for phyllis is not what’s motivating me here, I swear.

Danny: Cricket, you practically seethe when you say her name. You can’t say that that’s not a factor here.

Christine: Okay, well, do I despise her? Yes, I do, and with good reason. But that has nothing to do with you and me.

[ Danny sighs ] Danny, I came to see you because I couldn’t leave things in such a mess. And I needed to know that I wasn’t crazy. That what I’ve been feeling is real, and we’ve been reconnecting. And it’s been exciting and– and special. And I’ve felt feelings that I haven’t felt in a really long time, I… please say it was real for you, too.

Danny: Of course, it was.

Christine: Okay. I needed to hear that. I just– I hate the idea of walking away from this and not giving us a chance. So, I promise, I– I will give very little thought to phyllis. It’s just she keeps forcing herself between us and riling things up, and it hurts me that you don’t see it. You just– you just let it happen.

Danny: I am not blind, okay? I understand how incredibly difficult she can be. I do.

Christine: That woman is a walking apocalypse.

Phyllis: Hey, um, well, so much for danny’s request for space.

Danny: Phyllis, please don’T.

Phyllis: Let me guess. Did christine summon you here because she wanted to give you some sort of lecture about big bad phyllis? How’s that going so far?

Danny: It’s not like that.

Christine: Can you just get your coffee and go? We’re having a private conversation.

Phyllis: Um, yeah, no problem. Um, listen, I’ll give you guys– I’ll give you guys some time. I just wanted to tell you because I forgot to tell you earlier at daniel’S. Um, I have a surprise for you. I got you tickets to that concert that you’ve been talking about.

Christine: Was she at your apartment earlier? Is that why you couldn’t get me out of there fast enough?

Danny: Yes, because I was afraid of this.

Christine: I don’t know. I mean, it’s–

Danny: Wait.

Christine: It’s– it’s as if you’re playing us off each other like you’re enjoying this.

Danny: Not a bit.

Phyllis: I actually am.

Christine: Okay, you shut it.

Danny: I couldn’T. You know what? Enough, you two. All right, like I said before, I don’t want any part of this. I really don’T. I– I can’t handle it. And if spending time with the two of you is gonna be this kind of drama, then you know what? I think it’s a big mistake for all of us. All right? I really do.

Mamie: Did I mishear or did billy abbott just say that he and jill both see me as a threat?

Nate: Why is that?

Billy: Because I agree with my mother. The only reason why you came back to town and put your money into chancellor-winters because that was your first step in trying to oust jill abbott, which is coincidentally something that tucker would like to see happen as well.

Mamie: I am so done with tucker after what he did to ashley. He tried to make me an ally, but I refused.

Billy: Oh, well, you might’ve changed your mind, but the impulse was still there. After all these years, you still tried to stick it to my mother, mamie. That’s saying something.

Mamie: And she’s trying to shore up the company by bringing you and her grandson in right now.

Nate: Okay, okay. I think, um, I think we all should take a breath.

Billy: I’m perfectly calm, nate. You asked me a question, I’m giving you an answer. I think it’s important that we lay our cards on the table.

Mamie: And now nate can see that I’m not causing conflict. It’s already here.

Nate: And if tucker is really coming for us, internal distrust will only help him. We need to be united.

Billy: If you really wanna help with that, nate, then I suggest you try to convince aunt mamie that coming after jill abbott is a fool’s errand. One that I guarantee will fail.

Audra: You’re still not sure you can trust me, are you?

Tucker: No more sure than you are that you can trust me.

Audra: You’re okay with that?

Tucker: I’m more than okay with it. I’m thrilled with anything that keeps that fire in your eyes. Because that fire might be my favorite thing in the whole world.

Audra: Oh, stop it.

Tucker: Stop it?

Audra: Okay, go ahead.

[ Phone chiming ] Oh.

[ Tucker grunts ] Who’s home? Dios mio! You are still keeping tabs on ashley, aren’t you?

Diane: Ashley, you, uh, you look exhausted. Why don’t you go upstairs, take a bath?

Jack: Yeah, that’s a great idea. Unpack, unwind, we can pick this up tomorrow.

Ashley: Stop it. Both of you, I don’t wanna take a bath and I don’t wanna unwind. I wanna know why you wanna have a family meeting about me. What did traci tell you about paris?

Announcer: Next week on the young and the restless…

Sally: We are in serious trouble. Everything we worked for, we could lose it all.

Chelsea: I just got off the phone with the teachers at connor’s school. The news was much worse than I thought.

Chance: Would you two care to join us?

Phyllis: Sure.

Nick: No, we’re not gonna do that. No, no, you guys seem to be, um, having a good time on your, uh, is it a date?

Cole: What’s wrong?

Victoria: It’s my father. As usual, he’s gone too far.

Devon: What’s up?

Daniel: Hey, how’s it going?

Devon: Oh, you tell me. Have you told lily about you and heather?

Daniel: Well, I’m doing what I said I was going to do, and I’m waiting until lily’s in a better place emotionally to hear the news.

Devon: Okay, so the plan is just to keep cheating on her until that time comes?

Lucy: That gallery show was awesome. And you know what made it even better was that we went together, like a real family, which we practically are now. Do you think you’ll move in soon?

Heather: Oh, okay, all right, slow your roll, sweetie. This is, um, it’s new.

Lucy: Well, it’s old, really. Since I was born, basically, you guys just took a break, and then now the break’s over.

Heather: It’s a little more complicated than that, luce. Look, you heard your dad. He needs to find the right time to tell lily. So until then, this is under the radar.

Lucy: I know, it’s just really hard not to say anything.

Heather: Okay, well try to keep all your excitement under wraps for now.

Lucy: Right, but not around you guys. We have to be able to talk about it. I mean, this can’t be easy for you either. Acting like the most exciting thing in the world hasn’t happened.

Heather: It is the most exciting.

[ Lucy laughs ]

Heather: And I’m very, very happy.

Lucy: I just wish that we could skip to the good part already. You know, being together, being a family, for good.

Heather: It’ll happen.

Lucy: You’re positive? Because I don’t know, I’M… what if…

Heather: What if what?

Lucy: What if things change before dad gets to tell lily? Or what if when they see each other, dad decides that he wants to stay with her?

[ Diane sighs ]

Victor: Oh, my god. Sweetheart. Sweetheart.

Nikki: Mhmm.

Victor: Come on, sweetheart, wake up. Baby.

Nikki: Oh, god, victor.

Victor: Yes. Yes, my sweet baby.

Nikki: Oh, no. No, no, no. What did you do?

[ Nikki sighs ] What did you do? (Vo) welcome to lobsterfest. Is your party ready?

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Nikki: What did you bring him here for? How could you do this to me?

Victor: Sweetheart, no one did anything to you. I’m the one who knew you were here. Come on now.

Nikki: Oh, oh, yeah. But I confided in you. This is your fault.

Victor: Sweetheart, it’s going to be all right. Let’s go.

Nikki: No, nothing is all right. Nothing is all right.

Victor: Sweetheart.

Nikki: Nothing.

Victor: Come here, my darling. Come here, my baby. Come here. Come here. I’ll hold you up. Come here. Step down there.

Nikki: I’m all right.

Victor: Okay, good.

Nikki: I’m all right.

Victor: There you go. Come on. I’ll take you home to the ranch.

Nikki: All right. Where’s my purse?

Jack: I got your purse. I got your purse.

Victor: Come on. Jack, please open the door.

Nikki: Whoops. I’m fine.

Victor: Here we go.

[ Indistinct ] Here we go.

Nikki: All right.

Victor: Okay, my baby. Come on.

Daniel: Just so you know, heather and I, we agreed to put everything on hold until I get the opportunity to speak with lily.

Devon: Oh, wow. That’s really nice. It’s the least you could do. But you’re still living a lie every time you talk to lily. You know that. And if I didn’t know any better, I’d say you’re just afraid to have the conversation with her. Because I’m sure life is super easy right now for you, getting to sneak around with her on the other side of the country.

Daniel: No one is sneaking around.

Devon: Yeah.

Daniel: Look, I’ll fly to california right now if you think lily’s ready. Yeah, exactly. Good. I’m glad at least we agree on that. Because believe me, I would tell her. I would tell her everything if I thought she was ready to hear the news.

Devon: I’m assuming you spoke to lily since you and heather started doing it.

[ Daniel sighs ] Yeah, I have.

Devon: Yeah? And how did those conversations go? You just pretend the whole time everything’s cool? It’s a lie.

Daniel: You know what, man? Right now what lily needs more than anything is our support. And if I can lend an ear, if I can keep reassuring her that she’s doing everything she can to support her girl, then that’s what I’m going to do. And that’s what I’m going to keep doing as long as she needs me to.

Devon: Okay. There it is. I’m sure you’re telling yourself that your supporting lily helps you sleep at night. But you need to understand that you’ve put me in a very difficult position. Because I’m also keeping your secret.

Heather: So I get why you may be worried. But I have seen the look in his eyes when we’re together. And I have felt the love in his voice. What it means for us to be together again as a couple and as a family. So we, we need to believe in that. Believe your dad. Okay? It’ll happen. We just need to be patient.

Lucy: Patience sucks.

Heather: I agree. I am just as excited as you are. But we need to let your dad handle things his way. Deal?

Lucy: The last thing I want is to mess this up. So, deal. But, you know, A… mochaccino might persuade me to be a little bit more chill about things.

Heather: Okay. You’re on. Crimson lights it is. Lots of whipped cream and extra syrup. Let’s go.

Heather: You are a sneaky one.

Lucy: Oh, it’s gonna be cold outside. Oh, hey. You’re just in time. Wanna grab a mochaccino with us?

Danny: Uh, yeah. Look, I’m gonna have to pass on that.

Lucy: Oh, but you love those.

Danny: Not today.

Heather: You okay?

Danny: Sure. You know, I just, my, uh, my head is in the new album and I’m– I’m struggling with some lyrics right now on it. I’m just, uh, yeah.

Lucy: Well, you’re a genius. So whatever you come up with is gonna be epic.

Danny: Well, that’s the plan.

Lucy: Bye, grandpa.

Danny: Bye.

Lucy: See you later.

Danny: Have fun.

I told myself I was ok

Jack: I know about all this time you have been spending with my wife. It has been going on for weeks now, and yet you’ve not mentioned so much as a word to me.

Victor: Well, jack, for that matter, someone else informed me that my former wife, the mother of my children, had become an incorrigible drunk. You certainly did not inform me about that problem, did you?

Jack: Because it is not your problem! In case you have forgotten, nikki is married to me now.

Victor: You bet I haven’t forgotten that. Because if she were married to me, I assure you, I would not have let this tragedy happen to her.

[ Doors open ]

[Door closes ]

Diane: Hey. I’m so glad I’m home.

Jack: Hi.

Diane: Hi. I just had the most ridiculous run-in with phyllis. What’s wrong?

Jack: Victor. Well, victor and nikki.

Diane: Well, what happened?

Jack: Victor knows that I am nikki’s sponsor. I couldn’t keep the secret any longer.

Diane: So you were the one to tell him, despite what nikki wanted.

Jack: I hated breaking her confidence. But the situation was impossible.

Diane: Well, as difficult as it was, I’m glad you did. You said yourself that secrets are an impediment to recovery.

Jack: Yes, so is lack of trust. And I think I just lost hers.

Diane: Jack, what happened? Oh, okay, I understand. Confidentiality.

Jack: Let me just say, victor and I just dragged her out of a dive bar.

Diane: What?

Jack: And she was mortified that he saw her there, and she blames me.

Diane: Well, I hope she knows that you were just trying to help her.

Jack: Not the way an addict’s mind works.

Diane: Are you worried that nikki’s going to push you away now?

Jack: Yeah, I am.

Diane: Well, don’t be. You did the right thing in telling victor what was going on. How did he react?

Jack: As you’d expect, the usual bluster. Then when he finally calmed down, I think he could see the sense in my being her sponsor, given our history, given our friendship, given my background in substance abuse.

Diane: Well, that’s actually more generous than I would have expected from victor. Do you think he’ll let it continue?

Jack: He doesn’t get to interfere. He doesn’t get to sweep me aside. This is bigger than victor. He doesn’t get to call the shots this time.

Daniel: Look, man, I am sorry that I put you in this position, but you have to know how deeply I care for your sister. And I intend to remain friends with her after all of this. And if right now being there for her, to support her, and doing whatever I can to help her get through this, that’s not a lie, man. That’s the truth.

Devon: Okay. Tell me where heather stands on all this. How does she feel about you guys having to put your affair on hold?

Daniel: She gets how difficult it is. And she likes lily, so she understands that I need to be up front with her.

[ Devon laughs ] I can tell how much she likes lily by how she acted when she left town.

Daniel: You know what, man? I get it. You want to blame me. That’s fine. I accept responsibility here. But just don’t drag heather into this.

Devon: No, why not? Does it make you feel like a hero to defend your ex while you’re cheating on lily? Because what kind of hero are you going to be to her when she finds out what you’re doing and how long you’ve been doing it for? And you know things are only that much more complicated because you work together, right?

Daniel: Well, I guess we’re all going to have to find a way to be professional about it.

Devon: That’s really easy for the person who’s doing the dumping.

Daniel: You know, I didn’t I didn’t plan on any of this, devon. Getting back together with heather was the furthest thing from my mind. I’m just trying to figure out how to go about it day by day, and I’m trying to figure out how to do right by everyone in this situation.

Devon: Right. And I understand what you’re trying to do, and I still think that lily deserves better than how you’re treating her.

Daniel: I agree.

Devon: Good.

Daniel: Look, I hate it too, but be honest with me. Are you really in any place where you can stand here and pass judgment right now?

[]

Daniel: Look, man, I know from lily what went on between you and abby while you were with amanda. I get it. I do. You can’t always control what the heart dictates. Things can get messy, people can get hurt. Was it your intention to hurt amanda?

Devon: No, of course not.

Daniel: No. But now you feel like you’re where you belong, right? With abby and with dom.

Devon: I know what you’re getting at. I do. But it doesn’t change the fact that I don’t want to see my sister get hurt after everything she’s been through in her life. She’s battled cancer. She’s lost both of her parents. She’s been to jail. She just had a breakup with billy not too long ago. It feels like it’s just too much.

Daniel: I know. I agree. I agree. And that’s why I want to see her and do this face-to-face and have that conversation with her. Lily was my first love, man. I mean, she’s one of my oldest friends, and she’s definitely one of the most incredible people that I’ve ever known. Look, you have to believe me when I say that I want nothing but the best for her.

Devon: I hear you say all this stuff, and if it’s all true, then what happened?

Victor: And you make damn sure that no one in the bar says anything about my wife’s presence there. Do you got that?

Nikki: Mm.

Victor: And if they should dare serve her another drink, I will shut them joint down. Is that clear?

Nikki: Oh.

Victor: Come on, sweetheart. Have this water, okay?

Nikki: Oh, my god. I’m a mess.

Victor: My sweet baby. You’re beautiful to me, okay?

Nikki: I hate you seeing me like this because…

Victor: Don’t worry.

Nikki: It’s so humiliating.

Victor: Nonsense, okay? It’s all right.

Nikki: And why was jack with you?

Victor: Because he came to me to tell me that he is now your sponsor. And why in the world did you choose jack as your sponsor? He of all people. And then you’d keep it from me.

Nikki: Well, you hate him. I didn’t want to upset you. Oh. I’ve become such a burden to you.

[ Victor sighs ]

Nikki: You have other things to worry about. And I need to do this myself with the help of a sponsor. Somebody who understands the struggle because they have been through it. And, darling, I’m sorry, but that’s not you.

Victor: But, sweetheart, why jack abbott of all people? He’ll be an intimate part of our lives now.

Nikki: It’s not like I’m choosing him over you. I will still lean on you. I always will. But… when it comes to matters of aa, he… he is more knowledgeable, that’s all.

Victor: You mean even after he broke your word with you?

Nikki: No, he did the right thing. Darling, please don’t try to take this from me.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

[Stomach growling]

Nikki: I’m not ready to go home yet. I need to eat something. Then we should go see jack.

Victor: Why see jack abbott, for heaven’s sake? He practically gave you permission to drink.

Nikki: No, he did nothing of the kind. That’s why we need to… go see him so that you can hear both of us say why he is the best sponsor for me.

Victor: Sweetheart, there must be other options.

Nikki: Victor.

Victor: What?

Nikki: If you want to help me fight this disease, you need to understand how I need to fight it.

Victor: Of course I want to help you fight the disease. What do you think I’ve been doing?

Nikki: All right.

Victor: But jack abbott, for heaven’s sake? All right, we’ll go see jack abbott. But don’t you think for one moment I will not give him a piece of my mind.

Daniel: Nothing was wrong. You know, we were happy. We were trying to figure out if we still had a future together. It was very much an in-the-moment kind of relationship, and we hadn’t really looked past that.

Devon: And you do see a future with you and heather?

Daniel: Yeah, there’s no question. It’s just right, you know? Everything’s right for both of us, for all three of us. And I know how lucky I am, and I’m never gonna take that for granted again.

[ Devon sighs ]

Devon: Well, then, I mean, I guess you gotta do what you gotta do. All right? Just know if lily asks me, straight out, I’m not gonna lie to her.

Daniel: Understood.

Devon: Good. Hello.

Lucy: Hi.

Heather: Hello.

Devon: You guys have a good night.

Lucy: You too.

Heather: You too. Is everything all right?

Daniel: Yeah, I think so.

Lucy: We’re, uh, getting mochaccinos.

Heather: You want one?

Daniel: Um… aren’t you supposed to be doing your homework?

Lucy: It’s easy, and I have plenty of time. Plus, uh, grandpa was… said he wanted to work on music, and he kind of seemed a little upset.

Daniel: Really? I should probably check on him.

Lucy: Well, you’re missing out.

Daniel: Well, I didn’t say that you couldn’t pick up a couple for me and your grandpa when you’re done.

Lucy: As long as mom’s paying, I’m good.

Heather: Why don’t you go order for us, honey?

Lucy: Okay, yeah, sure.

Heather: Okay. So you and devon, that looked serious.

Daniel: Yeah. You know, he’s worried about lily, what this is gonna do to her, but he knows where things stand. And that’ll tell her when the time’s right.

Heather: Is it wrong that I really hope it’s sooner rather than later?

Daniel: I’ll see you back at the apartment.

Heather: Okay.

Lucy: Hey, mom.

Heather: Oh, wow. Thank you.

Lucy: Looks good, right?

Heather: Very good.

Lucy: To being a family again.

[ Heather sighs ]

Heather: Cheers.

Lucy: Cheers.

Phyllis: Hey, what are you two toasting?

Lucy: Just, um… just having a really great day.

Phyllis: Really?

Lucy: Mm-hmm.

Phyllis: Oh, my goodness, with smiles like those, I would think it would be something a little more important. Where’s your dad? He’s missing it.

Heather: He went back home, um, to check on his dad. Something was bothering danny.

Lucy: Yeah.

Diane: So what are you gonna do?

Jack: I guess when nikki’s sober, I’m gonna talk to her, tell her why I revealed a secret I promised her I would keep, and then listen to victor blame me for her latest slip.

Diane: Uh, jack, this is not your fault. You can only help nikki not drink as much as she’ll let you.

Jack: I know that, but… as strong as she is, as hard as she fights, this disease has broken the toughest. I’m not gonna let that happen to my friend. She needs all the help she can get. She’s gonna get everything I can give her.

[ Knocks ]

Diane: Uh, I’ll get it.

Jack: Thanks. This new charmin ultra soft smooth tear

Jack: Uh… I thought you were taking nikki to the ranch.

Nikki: It was my decision to come here.

Victor: Things are not finished between the two of us.

Jack: Okay.

Victor: She knows, doesn’t she?

Diane: I do.

Victor: Well, so much for discretion. I beg of you not to tell anyone about this. Is that clear?

Diane: I have already told nikki that I don’t intend to say a word. Whatever our history is, this struggle is private, and I… I respect that. And I respect you, and I hope you get through this. You know, I, um… I left a folder at the office, so I will be back as soon as I can.

Jack: Yeah.

Diane: Bye.

Jack: Please. So, how are you feeling?

Nikki: Uh, better. Steadier.

Jack: I know you’re here because you’re angry at me for telling victor that I’m your sponsor.

Nikki: Well, yes, I was. But… now I understand why you told victor the truth. You’re a man of integrity. It’s the right thing to do, though, and I just couldn’t see that until now. Even though you told me from the very beginning that we shouldn’t keep it from him.

Jack: I hope victor will hear those words out of your mouth. He certainly wouldn’t listen when they came out of mine.

Nikki: It’s true. It was my idea to keep it from you. I– I just knew that you would be upset, and I have already been such a burden to you. I– I just wanted to get better without putting you through more hell.

Victor: Sweetheart, you know damn well I will go through hell for you.

Danny: Hey, son, hi.

Daniel: Hey, hi yourself. How you doing? I heard you were, uh, in a bit of a funk.

Danny: No, I’m just preoccupied with the, uh, you know, the album. That’s it.

Daniel: Well, now I know something’s wrong.

[ Danny sighs ] What are you talking about?

Daniel: Come on, dad, I know you. When you’re recording, even if you hit a roadblock, you’re– you’re excited, you know? You’re all music all the time, and you’re happy, and you’re definitely not happy right now. And you passed up a caffeine hit with two of your favorite people, so what’s up?

Danny: Romance is a pain in the neck. That’s what’s up.

Daniel: I thought things were moving along with christine.

Danny: Yeah, well… it’s not just christine, it’s also phyllis, too.

Daniel: Oh, great, what’d she do now?

Danny: I was really happy with, you know, how things were progressing with christine, and then… and then phyllis told me how she felt, and…

Daniel: And you said no thank you.

Danny: Yes, uh, more than once. Uh… she kissed me, christine saw it, and they both think it’s much more than it really is, okay?

Daniel: Oh, my god, dad. How could you let that happen? How can you not know mom better than that by now?

Danny: Is this your idea of helping me? Because you’re really not helping me.

Daniel: Okay, yeah, you’re right. I’m– I’m sorry. What are you… what are you gonna do?

Danny: What do you mean? I’m gonna do what I have to.

Daniel: Which is?

Danny: Back away from both of them.

Daniel: Christine, too?

Danny: If I don’t back off, they’re not gonna back away from each other.

Daniel: So the old triangle’s back in play.

Danny: It’s not really a triangle, okay? I mean, my love for christine is completely different than my duty was to phyllis, and, you know, whatever it is, it’S… it seems messier than it’s ever been.

Daniel: You don’t owe mom anything. There is no duty there.

Danny: We know she’s made a lot of mistakes, but she’s trying to make amends for them. And I can’t just cut her off because she and christine can’t stand each other. She deserves more, and I deserve a little bit of trust in the matter here.

Daniel: Wow. That was a very passionate defense of mom. I’m just saying I could see how maybe christine would be uncomfortable here.

Danny: I told her that we all need to take a breath and a step back for a bit. And I’ve been throwing myself into my music and just trying not to think about it.

Daniel: No, no, no, no, no. That’s a distraction. It’s not a solution.

Danny: That’s really all I can do right now, daniel.

Daniel: Yeah, tell me about it. I know how that feels. You think you’re on the right path, and the next thing you know, right turn out of nowhere. Everything’s derailed. Your whole world’s upside down.

Danny: Somehow I don’t think we’re talking about me anymore.

Daniel: Heather and I are back together.

Danny: What? When? I mean, does lily know about this?

Daniel: No, it’s new, and I need to tell her face to face.

Danny: Yes, that would be wise.

Daniel: Yeah, it’s just not a good time right now, so we’re waiting until a better time. And in the meantime, heather and I agreed just to keep everything quiet.

Danny: Of course. Wow. This is big.

Daniel: This is big. Yeah.

Danny: Does lucy know about this?

Daniel: Yes, lucy knows, and I’m really hoping she can keep it to herself.

[ Sighs ]

Danny: Yeah. Well, you know, maybe it’s not so out of the blue when you think about it. Heather was the love of your life, and the two of you and lucy, you were wildly happy, until…

Daniel: Yeah, until I ruined everything. You know, I’m well aware, and that’s why this is all that much more important to me. The fact that heather’s willing to give me a second chance. You know, the fact that she has continued to love me this whole time. I don’t know, everything just kind of fell into place.

Danny: Well, I am really happy for you. I am. I’m happy for all of you.

Daniel: I just, I have to tell lily. You know, I’ve known her as long as I can remember, and the thought of lying to her or hurting her, it kills me.

Danny: Yeah. Lily is so dear, and there can’t be an easy way to do it, but you know what? You are a good person, and you are gonna find the words.

Daniel: Well, thank you for believing that.

Danny: It’s true. So, um, any advice for– for dad here?

Daniel: Buckle up, buttercup. No, seriously, buckle up. Are you silently suffering This i to dinner since

Phyllis: I just saw your girls at crimson lights, and I thought we would go to dinner since they’re out and about.

Daniel: Dinner?

Phyllis: Yeah.

Daniel: Um, hold that thought. This is lily. I gotta take this. Hey. Yeah, I miss you too. Hey, how’s maddie doing?

Phyllis: So…

[ Tinkling keys ]

[ Discordant notes ] How’s the writing coming along?

Danny: What are you doing here?

Phyllis: Well, I came here to ask our son out to dinner. That’s why I’m here. But this is a pleasant surprise.

Danny: Didn’t we agree on taking a little break, a step back?

Phyllis: Well, I heard a lot of other interesting things. Like you had feelings for me.

Danny: As a friend.

Phyllis: Oh, oh, oh. As a friend.

Daniel: Phyllis.

Phyllis: Listen. Danny. Hey. Okay. I know I’m a wild card. I know I say what’s in my head, what’s in my heart. I know that about myself. But honestly, it’s meant so much to me. That we’ve just… been able to talk. And laugh. We could talk about anything. That makes me feel good. It means a lot to me. And I know I get carried away. I’m sorry, I’m sorry. But… I just feel really good around you.

Danny: And this is what you do? You’re so sincere, so…

Phyllis: I am sincere.

Danny: And then you go and pull a stunt posting that on social media, trying to pick a fight with christine.

Phyllis: We talked about this. This is not about that. It’s about you and me.

Danny: There is no you and me.

Phyllis: Okay, okay, okay, listen, listen, listen. I know I’ve done a lot of horrible things in my past. I know that. I feel like I’ve taken responsibility for them. I mean, I’ve done things that I regret. And I’m sure that’s why you’re backing off. But if you gave me a chance, just one chance, maybe you could see that I give you something that you didn’t even know you needed.

Danny: This is not going to happen.

Phyllis: No? Wouldn’t mind if you tried.

[ Phyllis chuckles ]

Daniel: Um…

Danny: Hey. Um, how’s lily doing? Is everything all right?

Daniel: Yeah, yeah, no, she’s– she’s good.

Daniel: Oh. Yeah, um… I gotta get to the studio. And, uh, okay.

Phyllis: Danny?

Danny: I gotta go.

Daniel: You happy?

Phyllis: What? I was just talking to your father.

Daniel: Just– just putting him in an impossible position. Well, maybe danny and I are meant to be together. Have you thought of that? And it’s not happening because christine keeps on insinuating herself in between us and pitching a fit every time she sees us together. Maybe that’s why it’s not happening. Maybe we’re kismet. Just like you and heather. Huh? And if you’d wake up, maybe you could see that. And maybe danny will see it. I know he will.

Jack: So, nikki, what are your plans now moving forward?

Nikki: I don’t want to change anything.

Victor: Wait a minute. Aren’t there others who can, in your aa group, that could function as your sponsor?

Nikki: You mean like seth? I can’t take a chance like that again. I need somebody that I can count on, and I know that jack won’t let me down.

Victor: As far as I’m concerned, jack has made it worse. You damn well knew she was in a binge, and you lured me away from that dive bar where I could have helped her.

Nikki: Victor, please. What happened was in no way jack’s fault. It was mine.

Victor: His interference made it worse.

Nikki: My sobriety was violently taken from me by a woman who could still be a threat. And I am trying so hard to get it back. But some days, I– I am just so overwhelmed. I– I can’t fight. And I– I need to have a sponsor that– that I can have faith in, and it can’t be anybody from my meetings. I have years of trust with jack, and– and we understand each other, and he knows from his own experience what I need. Victor, please. I know this is upsetting to you, but you can’t help me inside the program, and I won’t accept anyone other than jack. So you are just going to have to let it be my call. And I need you to respect it.

Victor: Well, I disagree with it, however, since this is your wish, I’ll abide by it, okay? But, jack, one thing I can tell you. If anything happens to nikki, you will have hell to pay.

Christine: Hi.

Danny: Cricket, hey. Wow, um, how are you doing? I mean, I haven’t seen you since, uh–

Christine: Since I saw you kissing phyllis.

Danny: I am so sorry you had to witness that.

Christine: No sorrier than I was.

Danny: The whole thing was– it was a mess and I– that’s why I’ve been kind of laying low, you know, just, uh, focusing creatively.

Christine: Good for you.

Danny: I, uh– I’ve been in the studio working on the new album.

Christine: So, that’s why you’ve been so quiet?

[ Sighs ] Because to me, your, um– your silence speaks volumes.

Danny: Meaning?

Christine: You really don’t know what you want, do you?

Phyllis: Look who’s finally come for air.

Danny: Hey.

Abby: Aunt traci! Hi, you’re back!

Traci: Hi, honey. Yeah, I just got in.

Abby: Alone? Where’s my mom?

Audra: Why are you stalling? Why won’t you just tell me your plan?

Tucker: I’m not stalling, I’m just nuts for you. I got an idea. Let’s take a bath. I’ll tell you all about my plan in the bathtub.

Audra: See, now I know you’re dodging.

Tucker: I just wanted to make sure you were truly on board, is all. It seems like you are.

Audra: 100%.

Tucker: All right, we can talk business then.

Audra: Finally. All right, I want you to tell me what you have in mind for both of us. And don’t skip any details, tucker.

Tucker: Look at you, so desperately eager to find out what my master plan is.

[ Laughs ]

[ Jack sighs ]

[ Phone ringing ]

Nikki: Well, hello my friend.

Jack: Hey, where are you? How are you?

Nikki: You know, victor’s security guys, I guess, followed me, and then– then he showed up too.

Jack: Showed up where?

Nikki: You know, it is just so suffocating. Can’t I have a moment alone to just think?

Jack: Nikki, wherever you are, get out of there now, go home. You didn’t drive, did you?

Nikki: No, no, no, no, no.

Jack: Okay, that’s good. I’m sending a car for you right now. Text me your address.

Nikki: Jack, don’t– don’t– don’t send me a car. I, uh– I, uh, can take a– what do you call– a ride share.

Jack: I insist.

Nikki: Jack, please don’t send me the car. I’m– I’m fine.

Jack: Okay, stay right where you are, I am sending a car.

Nikki: Okay, see, you’re not really listening. Don’t send, uh– okay, okay. Oh, okay, send the car. I’ll, uh– I’ll be here.

Jack: Where are you?

Nikki: Well, I will send you the address when we hang up.

Jack: Make sure you remember to do that and– and text me when you get to the ranch. I’m at victor’s office now waiting to meet with him.

Nikki: Oh. What excuse are you going to use to have a meeting with him?

Jack: Uh, I’ve got to go. I’ll, uh– I’ll, I’ll catch up with you soon.

Victor: What do you want to tell me about my wife?

Jack: I hate that it’s come to this, but what’s happening is not fair to you and it’s going to end now.

[ Nikki sighs ]

[ Nikki sighs ] (Vo) welcome to lobsterfest. Is your party ready?

Announcer: Additional

sponsorship provided by…

Victor: What do you want to tell me about my wife?

Jack: The other day, I knew you were suspicious. You knew I wasn’t just innocently interested in nikki’s condition. And no, we did not just run into each other at an aa meeting. I went there with her in case she needed someone to lean on.

Victor: So, my concerns were justified. In other words, she has more difficulty dealing with alcohol than she let on.

Jack: It may come as a surprise to you, but I have been acting as her sponsor.

Victor: Why didn’t I know about that?

Jack: Because nikki was adamant you not know about it.

Victor: I’m her husband. I’m worried about her.

Jack: Yes, she knows that. And that’s why she didn’t tell you. She does not want to be a burden.

Victor: That’s absurd.

Jack: Nikki loves you, victor, and she does not want to put you through this again.

[ Victor sighs ]

Victor: You know why she doesn’t? Because she knows I’ll be damn pissed off if I find out that you have become her sponsor.

Jack: She was thinking you wouldn’t understand. And apparently, she’s right. That’s why she wanted to keep this from you. She is dealing with enough guilt already right now. The last thing she needs is a confrontation about her choice as a sponsor.

Victor: I’m her husband, damn it. I’m worried about her.

Jack: Yes, and you should know about this. I have said this repeatedly to nikki from the very beginning. You should not be in the dark about her condition or her recovery.

Victor: All right. There’s one thing you and I can agree on.

Jack: Nikki needs your help right now. The stress alone from keeping this secret has put her in a very precarious position right now. She needs all the help that she can get.

[ Victor sighs ]

Traci: Honey, your mother decided that she wanted to stay in paris for a little while longer.

Abby: And you just left her there after everything she’s been through?

Traci: Well, I didn’t have much choice. She insisted that I come home. And you know your mother, she won’t take no for an answer. And I fought with her, and fought with her until I couldn’t fight anymore. But the good news is she’s not alone. She says she has a friend there that she can confide in, and that she can talk things through with.

Abby: A friend? Is this a friend that you met?

Traci: No, she didn’t tell me who. So, I thought that it was a really good idea if I come home and bring the family up to speed on what’s going on with ashley. I think she’s going to need us when she gets home. And I don’t think it’s going to be easy. So, we need to figure out some sort of coordinated reaction on how we handle this.

Abby: I’m sorry, aunt traci. Coordinated reaction? What happened in paris? I spoke to my mom briefly, but she didn’t give me much information.

Traci: Well, unfortunately, ashley didn’t get the answer she was expecting. When we talked to the waiter at the bistro, he corroborated tucker’s version of events.

Abby: How convenient for tucker.

Traci: I know, and your mother even went so far as to suggest that maybe tucker bribed the waiter.

Abby: Well, I wouldn’t put it past the guy.

Traci: Except I was there. I saw the waiter’s reaction firsthand. He didn’t seem nervous or duplicitous in any way. And I now believe that his and tucker’s version is the truth.

Abby: I have a hard time believing that tucker mccall can tell the truth about anything. How are we supposed to believe that he’s right, and that my mom has made such a massive mistake?

Traci: I thought that too. But there’s a little bit more to the story than even ashley knows.

Tucker: Come here. Take a look at these companies. Let me know what you think.

[ Audra clears throat ]

Audra: I see five companies listed here. Uh, they’re all fragrance and cosmetic businesses that are european-based. It looks like they were all once successful powerhouses, but have taken a financial hit lately. Two of them are on the verge of bankruptcy.

Tucker: Right. Which makes them all quite vulnerable, wouldn’t you say? And if none of them on their own are sustainable or have any cachet left, but if we fold them into glissade, you know, we could take quite a bite out of the market, and create a little powerhouse of our own that would rival jabot.

[ Audra scoffs ]

Audra: There it is. Yeah, i thought this wasn’t about jabot. That it was no longer on the table, or of any interest to you. But obviously, I was mistaken.

Phyllis: Well, I thought you vanished off the face of the earth. I was about to send out a search party for you.

Danny: Nope, I’m, uh– I’m still here.

Phyllis: Oh, great. Well, you didn’t answer any of my phone calls. I even talked to daniel and he wasn’t uttering a word as to where you were.

Christine: Smart man.

Phyllis: He is a smart man. Daniel is a smart man. Thank you very, very much, christine. Our son is so smart. You know, I remember when we were together, and you would get into your sort of artistic writing modes, and you’d have to, you know, go into your cave. You needed your own personal zone.

Danny: Yeah.

Christine: Yeah, of course he did, he was married to you. Who wouldn’t need as much personal space as they could get under those circumstances?

Phyllis: I’d like to think that I was an inspiration to you.

Danny: All right, all right. Uh, enough, okay? Um, I was telling cricket that I’ve been in the recording studio working on some new music. Yeah, and just really in the zone, as you would put it. Really, you know, wrapped up in the new material. And to answer your question, look, I, uh– I just want the dynamic between the three of us to end. I’ve really had enough. (Male announcer) an important message for americans age 50 to 85.

Phyllis: Oh, uh-huh. The dynamic between the three of us, really? This is fun.

Christine: And this is exactly what I didn’t want, I made it perfectly clear that I wasn’t into any kind of competition and I was right. That’s what this is, so why don’t you just come out, and say it?

Phyllis: Oh, my goodness. Always a lawyer. Wow, always building a case. Never letting your guard down.

[ Phyllis laughs ] I mean, you get points for that, for sure, christine.

Christine: I’m not gonna stand here and argue about this.

Phyllis: I’m not arguing.

Danny: Hey, come on, please, just–

Phyllis: Well, I’m not doing anything, danny. She’s badgering the witness. I mean, obviously, you have something to say. You should just let him say it, christine.

Christine: I know danny far too well and… I’m not sure that I want to hear what he has to say.

Phyllis: Mm, for once, we can agree on something.

Christine: I doubt that, sincerely.

Phyllis: Maybe you came here to admit that you have feelings for me. And you want to be with me. And that’s the last thing you want to hear, right, christine?

[ Christine sighs ]

Tucker: No, audra, you’re not mistaken. I have no interest in jabot. I just want to prove that this new and more powerful company, uh, can– can best jabot. We command more of their market share, lure away some of their customers.

Audra: Don’t you mean you want to prove it to ashley that you can do this? That she made a terrible mistake by walking away?

Tucker: Please focus on what I’m trying to tell you. I’m talking about consolidating six companies into one of the greatest, biggest, most powerful of its kind. And I’m offering you the chance to head it up. So, think about it.

Audra: So, what do you expect to get out of all of this?

Tucker: Just success. The company’s a huge success. And, uh, to be re-legitimized in the corporate world. And once glissade makes its debut, then, uh, all the dirt from the scandal will be washed away, and I’ll be a respected player again. And if you will do me the honor, my sweet, you’ll be right by my side.

Audra: So, this isn’t about running jabot out of business? That isn’t still your agenda?

Tucker: It’s a bonus. It’s not the goal.

Audra: Oh, not at all.

Tucker: Hey, what do you care if I get in a few humiliating slaps to jabot’s face? As long as we come out on top, that’s all that matters, right?

Abby: Aunt traci, what else is there? What did you find out?

Traci: I did a little digging of my own. I went back to the café and I asked around the staff if anybody else remembered the episode.

Abby: Okay, were– were there any witnesses?

Traci: Every single person I talked to who remembered it corroborates tucker’s version of events. This was not the violent scene that ashley seems to remember. There were no shattered glasses, no overturned chairs. Oh, they remember a loud argument, that’s for sure. But it wasn’t the confrontation that ashley seems to recall.

Abby: Okay, but I wouldn’t put it past tucker to bribe the whole city of paris to support his lie.

Traci: That’s true. But I no longer think that’s the case. I believe that what tucker described is what really happened. Don’t get me wrong, I know how diabolical he can be, but these people did not seem to be lying or covering anything up.

Abby: Well, what did my mom say when you told her?

Traci: I haven’t told her. Uh, she doesn’t know that I canvassed other witnesses. Honestly, I felt like it was a better idea to break it to her when she was home and surrounded by the family.

Abby: Look, everyone knows that I am not the biggest fan of tucker, but no one should be accused of something that they didn’t do, it’s just– my mom is so certain.

Traci: I know that. And that’s why I thought it was a good idea to prepare the family. We’re going to have to help her through this. This is going to be so unsettling for ashley when she realizes that the intensity of the argument she had with tucker is nothing like what she remembers.

Abby: This is just so unlike my mom. My mom is so methodical, and she doesn’t exaggerate. She doesn’t lie intentionally or unintentionally. I mean, how can the two stories be so different? How is my mom going to wrap her head around this?

Traci: It won’t be easy, but ashley is going to have to come to terms with this somehow, and the family is going to have to help her through it.

Abby: Okay, where do we start?

Traci: Well, I have to talk to jack, and I’ve been trying to find him all day. Have you heard from him?

Abby: No, I haven’T.

Traci: All right, well, if you do, tell him I’m back and I’ve got to see him as soon as possible.

Victor: Oh, man. Let me reconstruct this. She was in a bar somewhere, saw me come in, hiding from me. Then, she calls you, convincing you to lure me away to this meeting, right?

Jack: Yes, she called me. It was a shout out for help. I did not know where she was at the time.

Victor: She wanted to convince you to help her conceal her drinking from me.

Jack: Yes, when I got her garbled text message, I suggested that might be the case.

Victor: Jack, you knew damn well she was in some dive bar, getting loaded, getting drunk. And yet, you conceal this from me. You help her cover up. You’re not helping her. You give her permission to drink more. To give your teeth a dentist clean feeling.

Traci: Thank you. All right. As soon as I talk to jack, I will get back in touch with you, okay? All right, try not to worry, sweetie.

Abby: I love you.

Traci: Love you, too.

[ Abby sighs ]

Abby: Mom, hi, it’s me. I just talked to aunt traci and she told me what happened. Call me back when you can, or, um, better yet, come home. And mom, I love you.

Jack: Once again, you are way off base, victor. I am not encouraging nikki’s drinking. Quite the opposite. I am encouraging her sobriety.

Victor: By doing what, jack? By covering for her while she’s getting drunker by the minute?

Jack: I can’t rip the glass out of her hand. Instead of blaming me for nikki’s lapse, perhaps you should focus on what took her over the edge this time.

Victor: For heaven’s sake, jack, you don’t think I know? She’s my wife.

Jack: And I am her sponsor. She trusts me. And yes, she turns to me because she doesn’t have to worry about my feelings. Victor, she needs both of us. The question is, will you allow that to happen?

Victor: I’ve got to be very honest with you. I’m damn worried about her.

[ Phone ringing ]

Nikki: Oh, hi. I hope you’re coming for me, jordan. Yes, that’s right. I dare you. Because it’ll be the biggest, worst mistake you’ve ever made. I’ll wait for ya. Bitch. I’ll be waiting. I’m waiting. Okay, when you turn around, you’re gonna see someone.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Phyllis: Come on, open up. Tell us what’s really in your heart. Christine needs to know. And so do I.

[ Danny sighs ]

Danny: All right, um… so here it is. I’ve been locked away in the recording studio for quite a while now and it’s given me a lot of time to think and to be really honest with myself.

Phyllis: Yeah. And that deep dive into honesty led you straight to me.

Danny: You both are incredibly special to me. You are. And I mean, come on, I mean, look at all the history we’ve shared together. What was and– and– and what is now. And– and, uh, my feelings have evolved through this.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. Okay. What are you trying to say?

Christine: Yeah, what are you trying to say, danny?

Danny: I really want what’s best for phyllis. And I want to be there for her and help her in any way I can. And I want to be able to do this without all of this– this drama, without all of this.

Christine: Th– this? Like, you’re lumping me in with her– her– her game playing her need to win?

Danny: Look, I don’t mean to. I don’T.

[ Danny sighs ] I guess maybe I am.

[ Christine sighs ]

Victor: So, why now? Why are you coming clean about sponsoring my wife now?

Jack: Because I can see how much this is tearing you up. Worrying about a woman you love as much as you love nikki. Wondering where she is, how she is. How long this is going to go on, whether it’s going to change her or change you. That is the destructive nature of this disease, victor. Families suffer every bit as much as the person with the addiction.

Victor: Come on now, jack. Are you saying you’re doing this for me?

Jack: Yes, and there have been a number of close calls where I thought you might figure out that I was helping her, and I did not want you to find out that way. It wouldn’t be good for you, and it certainly wouldn’t be good for nikki. Listen, this secret alone is adding so much guilt to her already full plate.

Victor: But, jack, clearly what you’re doing is not helping her. She’s still drinking.

Jack: Come on, it’s been a short time. This change does not happen overnight. And for what it’s worth, there has been progress.

Victor: You call this progress?

Jack: Absolutely. She knows when she’s in trouble. She knows that she can call out for help. In fact, several times she has reached out to me before she reached for the bottle.

Victor: How the hell do you know that’s helping? Obviously not. She needs me. She needs our family.

Jack: Yes, she does. She needs you. She needs everyone’s help and then some. Victor, she does not want you to see how much she is struggling. She does not want you to know that she depends on someone else’s support than yours. But keeping secrets from those we are closest to is only going to make things worse, and that’s why I’m here. I don’t want this to get worse.

Victor: All right.

Jack: Nikki’s going to be furious at me, but if it helps you understand better what she needs, it will be worth it.

Victor: You know that I would never blame her for any of this?

Jack: And you should know that you and I have the same goal. We want to help nikki get a solid, stable sobriety again.

[ Victor sighs ]

Victor: All right. That is one thing we can agree on.

Jack: And perhaps we can agree that I am the right person to be her sponsor. I’m ideally suited to this, victor. I know from experience what she is going through and more important, what it will need to overcome this. This isn’t a short-term thing. Trying to stop her from taking one drink. No. This is a long-term process. The first month’s chip. The third month’s chip. Working the program. Working the steps. Digging deep. Trying to find the strength to do what it takes to be sober again. Nikki wants this. It’s important to her. That is the good news here. So, I am hoping you will allow me to do everything I can to help her.

Tucker: Ah, traci! Bonjour! Back from paris so soon?

Traci: Ah, tucker. You know, I find it very strange that you’re keeping track of my comings and goings.

Tucker: Yeah, I know you went to paris with ashley. And I also know that even after being faced with the truth about what actually happened there, she refuses to accept it. And now you know also that she was wrong about everything. And I really hope you can convince her of that. If you have chronic kidney disease Hi, my name is damion clark. Traci: Tucker, you cannot talk about my sister anymore. Not with me. I’m not going to discuss with you her private thoughts or her feelings. And frankly, I don’t think you have any right to that information anymore. But you don’t seem to notice that you have no right to– to ask me for that information. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, but I’m a little disgusted.

Tucker: Oh. See, I remember a time when you could at least be civil with me, traci. Now just a friendly conversation is too much for you?

Traci: I am not going to get into this with you. Whatever the truth is, the bottom line remains the same. There is no connection between the tw–

Tucker: “Whatever the truth is?” The truth is exactly as I say it is. She created this false narrative to justify ending things with me, period.

Traci: All right, as I said, either way, things are finished between you and ashley. So, please, just move on and leave my sister alone.

Audra: Well.

Tucker: Well?

Audra: I can see that interaction certainly got under your skin.

Tucker: Actually, it didn’T.

Audra: No?

Tucker: No, really. Traci’s right. Ashley and I are finished. We’re moving on. The end.

Phyllis: Well, I was right. You do have feelings for me. When did you realize it? When I came to daniel’s apartment and you kissed me? Or when you played me your song and you kissed me again?

Christine: None of that is what he said.

Phyllis: Well, I heard a lot of what he said, and it was a lot of caring and unspoken things because he didn’t want to hurt you.

Christine: Guess what? I’m not going to stand here and get attacked by her.

Danny: Chris, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Please, just don’t do this, all right? I’m trying to bring the temperature down. I don’t want to make things worse.

Christine: Tell yourself what you want. You’re buying into her garbage.

Danny: What I feel for phyllis is friendship.

Phyllis: You kiss all your friends like that?

Danny: Look, don’t go and twist this, all right? I don’t condone what you did, okay? All these game playings and– and posting that video on social media. You shouldn’t have done that.

Phyllis: Oh, it was a song. It was beautiful. It was an incredible moment for me, like all the moments I spent with you.

Danny: You implied that there’s something romantic going on between us when you know clearly, there’s not.

Phyllis: I don’t know about that. Feelings are feelings. They are. Did you see how many likes it got, by the way?

Danny: I don’t care about the likes. That was for an audience of one.

Christine: Exactly.

Phyllis: Well, I think she knew how you felt before you even knew and I don’t think I’m making any of that up.

Danny: And she took the bait. Which is basically how you two relate to one another, right?

Christine: Okay, and I asked you this before. Don’t lump me in with her.

Danny: Look, I have been out of this, away, you know? Happily free from all kinds of romantic entanglements. And you know what? I’m finding that I actually like it. You know, maybe– maybe that’s the best way for me to live my life.

Phyllis: You don’t mean that, do you?

Danny: I care about both of you. I really do, all right? And the feelings are– are completely different. They really are. But that’s not enough for either one of you. You want to declare that we’re meant to be, and then you want to tell me that I can’t be friends with my son’s mother.

Christine: I never said that.

Danny: I have this great suggestion. Why don’t we all just take a step back, all right? Take a big, deep breath. And just… let this all cool off. All right? That, uh… I think that’s best for all of us. I really do.

Christine: You always seem to find a way to ruin everything for everyone around you.

[ Tense music ]

Phyllis: You don’t get to paint me out to be the bad guy here, christine.

Christine: If the paint fits.

Phyllis: I’m not ruining anything, by the way. Except maybe your eternal fantasy to be with danny.

Christine: You should know all about fantasyland, since you’re living in it.

Phyllis: Oh, poor bug. Really? Can’t you see that danny’s just not that into you? Especially since I seem to be a temptation.

Christine: Okay.

[ Christine laughs ] Oh, phyllis. You throw yourself at danny every chance you get. It’s– it’s embarrassing. And now, because he didn’t tell you to go to hell, he thinks he might be interested. And oh, look at you! You won’t take no for an answer.

Phyllis: Well, you should have respect for the man. He said he cares for me and those were his words, not mine.

Christine: Well, danny’s right about one thing. You need to take a deep breath and step back now.

Phyllis: Whoa. You’re such a control freak. So desperate. So desperate to hang on to danny after paul dumped you. You just need a rebound lover so you can stay warm at night.

Christine: You don’t want to go there, phyllis.

Phyllis: Really? Or what? You don’t scare me. If it’s war you want, it’s war you’ll get. And we’ll see who wins.

Christine: Okay. If that’s how you want to play it. Gauntlet thrown.

Audra: I find it so strange that someone as formidable as ashley can make people so protective over her.

Tucker: Oh.

Audra: Yeah, her sister was ready to tear you apart if you said one more word.

Tucker: That whole family, they just hate outsiders. Look at them. Look at jack. He’s the only one in a relationship. And they’ll drive diane away for sure sooner or later. They’ll exile her. Yeah. I was an idiot not to realize before how codependent they all are.

Audra: It finally sounds like you mean it. Like you’re ready to move on. Are you sure you’re ready to let go of the greatest love of your life?

Tucker: Ashley abbott is dead to me.

[ Tucker clicks tongue ] Do I need to do something to prove it to you?

Traci: Jack? Jack, are you home? Jack?

[ Traci sighs ] Jack, it’s me. Again. Listen, I’ve been trying to reach you all day. I’ve got to talk to you. We’ve– we’ve got to come up with some kind of a strategy to help ashley. Seriously, I– I am so worried. Please call me back as soon as you get this.

Jack: Victor, you have to understand, it is nikki that asked me to be her sponsor. This is her call, not yours.

[ Phone ringing ] Nikki, are you okay? Did the car come that I sent?

Nikki: I’m still here. I need your help.

Jack: Stay where you are. Don’t go anywhere. I’m on my way.

Victor: Whoa, whoa, wait, what happened?

Jack: She’s calling out for help. She’s still at the bar.

Victor: I’m coming with you.

Devon: Five years in and you still have the coolest place in town, you know that?

Abby: Oh, well, I have the best kitchen staff and front of house, so I got very lucky.

Devon: I don’t think luck has anything to do with it. You’re successful because every aspect of this place has your touch on it. You’ve created something that people want to come back to over and over again.

Abby: Well, I like to keep people happy, customers and staff.

Devon: And talent is gold these days, so keeping your employees is also giving you a competitive advantage.

Abby: You know, I love it when you talk business to me. I find it very exciting.

Devon: Do you really?

Abby: Mm-hmm. Let me show you.

Devon: Ooh, I think your appointment just showed up.

Abby: Awesome. Wish me luck.

Devon: You won’t need any luck at all.

Tessa: Hi, am I too early?

Abby: Nope, you are right on time.

Lauren: Hi. Is now a good time?

Jack: No, great time. Please, thanks.

Lauren: Yeah, I know you’ve been wanting to discuss something with me in person for a while. I’m sorry for the delay. I had an unexpected trip to new york.

Jack: Not to worry. How are things at fenmore’s? Beyond the quarterly reports, which, by the way, were spectacular.

Lauren: Oh, well, thank you. Yes, everything is going like clockwork. Spring one is up, as you know, selling very, very well, and we have a jump on fall and holiday.

Jack: Well, I’m delighted to hear that because I have a favor to ask you.

Nick: So, according to your P.I., Jordan did not survive the fire.

Victor: Correct.

Victoria: So, she’s dead?

Victor: Well, possibly. It’s going to take weeks before the authorities will identify the bodies using dna.

Nick: So, what do they know?

Victor: Well, of all the inmates, six are unaccounted for.

Nick: So, they either haven’t found their bodies yet or they ran off during the chaos.

Victor: Yeah.

Victoria: Jordan could be one of them. Does mom know about any of this?

Victor: Well, unfortunately, it still upsets me she saw the news report, and she identified the name of the prison and it freaked her out.

Nick: How could it not?

Victoria: Are you wishing now that you had told her yourself when you first found out?

Victor: No, no, no. No, that would have upset her even more, you know? And we just don’t know if that jordan woman survived or not.

Nick: Well, there’s no evidence that she’s dead either. Which means she could be hitchhiking her way back to genoa city as we speak.

Victoria: That is a possibility. Therefore, we have to be on high alert until we know what’s become of her.

Victor: The thought is too terrible to contemplate, to be honest with you. But I assure you that I will do everything in my power to protect your mother. In fact, I will know wherever she is every minute of the day.

[ Phone ringing ]

Nikki: Nikki newman. Hello? Hello? Oh, thank god. No calls.

[ Phone ringing ] Leave me alone!

[ Nikki sobbing ] (Vo) welcome to lobsterfest. Is your party ready?

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by… now I can be myself again.

Abby: Thank you so much for carving out time to meet with me.

Tessa: No, look, sure, of course.

Devon: How’s, uh, how’s aria been and her hearing aids?

Tessa: Oh, she’s doing so well. I mean, it’s changed her whole world. I mean, she’s so much more curious and engaged now.

Devon: I’m sure less cranky.

Tessa: Yeah.

Abby: Oh, that’s awesome. I’m sure you and mariah are so thrilled.

Tessa: Yeah, beyond. Thank you. Thank you for asking.

Devon: Of course. Well, I’ll leave you both to it and I’ll come back by for an update.

Abby: Perfect.

Devon: Love you.

Abby: Love you.

Devon: Tell mariah hello.

Tessa: Oh, I will. Bye, devon.

Devon: See you.

Abby: Please, have a seat.

Tessa: Okay. Well, I have to say I was curious by your invitation, but now I’m even more intrigued.

Abby: Oh?

Tessa: Well, it’s so nice to spend time with you. We don’t really get to do that very much lately. But I was surprised that you wanted to meet with just me and not mariah. Which means that this isn’t entirely social. Unless I’m wrong.

Abby: How are things at marchetti? Are you still modeling for them?

Tessa: Uh, yeah. It’s been a little slow lately.

Abby: Oh, is that typical?

Tessa: Yeah, I mean, fashion marketing is pretty cyclical. We already did all the digital and media work for the spring line. So, you know, there’s not much going on at the moment.

Abby: So, it’s not a full-time commitment?

Tessa: No. Uh, I would say it’s more sporadic. Does that have something to do with why I’m here?

Abby: I have a proposition for you.

[ Phone ringing ]

Victor: Yes? Was she driving or what? A ride share? What are you talking about? Have her followed, all right? As we discussed, discreetly. I want to know where she ends up. Is that clear?

Lauren: I mean, I knew she was struggling. I– I just hoped that she was doing better.

Jack: Well, things are improving, I think. She’s reaching out to me now sooner, you know, after the first drink. And sometimes, before she succumbs to the urge.

Lauren: Well, I would call that progress.

Jack: Yeah, it is. Only now at work, she has a predicament that could go all wrong.

Lauren: What’s going on?

Jack: Well, she doesn’t have a permanent assistant. She never replaced claire, and audra charles has now left newman media.

Lauren: That was fast. What happened?

Jack: A story for another day. In the meantime, nikki is having a bit of a tailspin. She’s without support, taken on an awful lot at exactly the wrong time. She wants to appear her normal, competent self, and I worry that the stress of trying to run a fast-moving division on her own while she’s fighting her addiction is a recipe for disaster.

Lauren: That’s untenable. I mean, but thank goodness, newman, I mean, they can hire the best in the business.

Jack: Right now, trust is paramount with nikki. And just some comfort in her daily duties.

Lauren: So, what’s the solution?

Jack: She needs someone who knows the cast of characters, who doesn’t need to be brought up to speed. Someone with kindness and discretion without being a pushover, without being easily snowed. And somebody who understands it’s a temporary job just until nikki can get control of her life again.

Lauren: Well, that’s quite a wish list. But it’s doable, I mean, for nikki’s sake.

Jack: I agree. And here’s where my favor comes in. Would you consider having your staff temporarily run fenmore’s while you step in to help nikki? Wanna know how I get this glow?!

Victoria: So that’s everything that dad told us about the fire and about jordan’s status.

Cole: Well, that’s pretty close to what I found out.

Victoria: Now what?

Cole: I spoke to claire’s therapist. So far, she hasn’t been told anything about what happened at the prison or that jordan might be out there.

Victoria: I guess that’s good.

Cole: I assume you want to protect her. Keep the news from her in case it could cause another setback.

Victoria: I take it you don’t agree?

Cole: Well, with the sentiment, I do.

Victoria: But you think that claire should know.

Cole: I think that claire is stronger. She’s wanting some agency, some– some control over her recovery. This is all just an illusion if we don’t respect her right to know the truth. She has to know the facts that her aunt could possibly be on the loose again or maybe even dead.

Victoria: You’re right. My gut instinct was to keep her in the dark for as long as possible, but that’s just not practical. It’s not fair to her at all. I mean, this is a national breaking story. Claire could go to watch the news in the common room and she could put it together for herself, I suppose.

Cole: I’m sure she would.

Victoria: Being hit with this kind of news while you’re all alone, I mean, it would just make everything worse. I think claire needs to know.

Cole: She needs to hear it from both of us. All right? Because we’re finally, I mean, slowly, we’ve earned her trust. Right?

Victoria: Right.

Cole: I think that lying to her now undoes everything that we’ve accomplished so far.

Victoria: You’re right. We’ll both be there for her to support her when she finds out about it. And even if jordan isn’t a danger, I mean, she needs to know that we would never keep anything from her. And she needs to be able to be aware and to have her guard up.

Cole: And know one thing. That woman will never hurt our daughter again. Not as long as there’s breath in my body.

Lauren: Well, first, thank you for your faith in me. Thinking that I could just parachute into this very unfamiliar situation.

Jack: Well, of course you could. You’re a pro. You’re a successful businesswoman with years of experience.

Lauren: But not in the media world.

Jack: Yeah, but you know the corporate world. You wouldn’t be producing news or editing publications. You’d be a backup for nikki on negotiations, contracts. You know, internal stuff. Stuff you’ve been dealing with already.

Lauren: I– I– I just don’t think I’m the right person for this.

Jack: Nikki needs someone she can count on. I would do this myself if she weren’t so adamant that victor not know I am involved.

Lauren: Wait, even as her A.A. Sponsor?

Jack: In any way at all. Believe me, I disagree with all of it, but I can’t seem to convince her her to allow victor into our arrangement. And you know what? Even if he knew, he’s not going to let me anywhere near a division of newman enterprises.

Lauren: Well, if he’s not going to let you, how is he going to let me?

Jack: Well, I can give you a few reasons. I think he’s fond of you. You’ve never been married to nikki and you’ve never been his sworn enemy for years on end.

Lauren: Well, that’s true. You got me there.

Jack: You’re tough and you know what she’s up against. Look, if you’d agree to this, I’m sure victor would not object.

Lauren: You’ve really thought this through.

Jack: I can’t help being protective, of both of you.

Lauren: And that means more to me than I can say. You know, I’ve been blessed with a very incredible management team who’s excellent at day-to-day, so I could step in for a little bit and still be available for the big things.

Jack: Is this sounding like a yes?

Lauren: Oh, well, I need to know how nikki feels. Have you even run this by her? I mean, is she going to be amenable or is she going to see this for what it really is? Me watching her to make sure she doesn’t take that first drink.

[ Phone ringing ]

Victor: Yes. What’s the name of the place? The empty glass lounge? Wait a minute, I think I know where that is. You stay there. I’m on my way.

Nick: Where are we with the emerson contracts?

Adam: We’re in good shape. Legal is going over them one last time and then we’ll be ready to get signatures.

Nick: Great. Sounds like this acquisition is going to close in record time, which will of course please the old man. Adam.

Adam: Hm?

Nick: What’s your deal? You’ve been distracted all day.

Adam: Just personal stuff. Which I doubt you’re interested in since you’ve made it clear you want to keep things between us strictly business.

Nick: Yeah, I just said that to prevent us from falling back into old patterns.

Adam: Well, so far so good. Where do you want to start next? Do you want to talk about the H.R. Reorg?

Nick: I think I’d rather talk about what’s bothering you.

[ Adam sighing ]

Adam: Nick, come on.

Nick: If you are having problems in your personal life, it’s bound to affect your work performance, like it is right now. Adam, things have been going great around here. I would prefer to keep you in that good place. So, if there’s something bothering you or anything you want to get off your chest, let’s talk about it. You will get no judgment from me.

Adam: Okay. But don’t say I didn’t warn you.

[ Knock on door ]

Claire: Come in.

Victoria: Hi there.

Claire: Hey.

Cole: Hey. I hope we’re not interrupting?

Claire: Not at all. I am supposed to write down all of my thoughts and hopes and anxieties in my therapy journal to process trauma and create a sense of control. It’s nice to see you.

Victoria: It’s good to see you.

Cole: Yeah. So, how’s it going?

Claire: Overall, a little better, I think. I worked through some stuff in group this morning. Usually, I don’t say much, but for some reason, I felt more talkative today.

Victoria: That’s– that’s wonderful. Whenever I get upset, I find that it’s very helpful to talk things through.

Claire: It’s– okay, this isn’t just a regular visit. Something’s going on with you two. What is it?

Victoria: Claire, maybe you should sit down.

Claire: Okay.

Cole: There’s no good way to ease into this, so I’ll just start with what we know. There was a fire at south coast women’s prison.

Claire: In oregon, where jordan’s being held?

Cole: A number of the inmates perished, but have yet to be identified. Most survived, and jordan wasn’t among that group. And there’s a handful that are missing.

Claire: Missing? Which means what exactly?

Victoria: That they may have escaped.

Cole: It’s only been a couple of days, and things are still in flux. The authorities are investigating.

Claire: Oh, my god.

Cole: So listen, we know this is a shock, but there’s no confirmation of anything as of yet.

Victoria: We just– we wanted you to hear it from us first.

Claire: What are the odds jordan escaped?

Cole: I think that we should be prepared for anything.

[ Claire sighing ]

Victoria: What is it?

Claire: You’ve thought of it already, right? Jordan could have set the fire. I remember she told me more than once that in an emergency, fire could be the ultimate distraction.

Jack: You’d be doing a lot more than watching over nikki. Look, she knows I have been looking for someone to be her coo. She just doesn’t know that it was you.

Lauren: I see.

Jack: Look, she needs a right hand that she can depend on. And she would be thrilled if she has a friend she can truly trust.

Lauren: Well, it would be a fresh challenge. And I would hope that if fen needed help, that it wouldn’t be turned down. And like you said, it’s just temporary. I mean, I certainly wouldn’t walk away from fenmore’s completely.

Jack: In terms of schedule, we could accommodate just about anything.

[ Lauren chuckling ]

Lauren: All right. I’m in.

Jack: Wonderful. Let me get in touch with nikki and set up a meeting. Thank you.

Victor: Excuse me. By chance, have you seen a woman about 5’6″, blonde, blue eyes?

Bartender: What’s your question?

Victor: My question is, have you seen her and has she been drinking?

Bartender: Look around. The folks who come here, they value their privacy.

Victor: Really? All right. Um, will this help? I would’ve called yesterday.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Abby: If all goes as planned, I will be joining the board at chancellor-winters. Jill has already approved the vote and devon doesn’t see any issues, so I’m as good as in. And I would like to be as involved their day to day as they will let me be. Especially since tucker is a loose cannon and they need all the help that they can get. Which means I will need someone here as the day manager. And since you’ve already worked here and you know how things operate, I was wondering if you would be interested.

Tessa: Oh, uh, wow. I haven’t done a lot of managing.

Abby: But you’re a problem solver and you’re great with people. And you know so many of our regulars that you could really give it that personal touch. I think you would be perfect for the job.

Tessa: Wow. I mean, I will need to think it over and just talk to mariah about it.

Abby: Of course.

Tessa: I am curious though. You’re a successful entrepreneur. You created something fun and lively. Do you really want to go back to the office?

Abby: Honestly, I’ve been feeling a little restless. This place is such a well-oiled machine. It doesn’t really need me here as much as it used to. And I thought about maybe opening another restaurant. But when devon and I talked about me joining the board, I don’t know, it made me very excited. So, how soon can you give me an answer?

Tessa: Tomorrow. You know, I’m feeling excited about this idea as well.

Adam: You know, connor found this school on his own and he came to us, wanting to be around kids with similar issues, as well as putting some distance between himself and genoa city, where his parents aren’t celebrities of the exact wrong kind.

Nick: So much pressure to conform at that age.

Adam: Yeah, well, connor was doing well at first. I mean, just a sense of relief of starting fresh. You know, not being the odd kid out anymore. But as time has gone on, even though he’s happier, he’s struggling in school. He’s drifting in class. He has trouble focusing. And his schoolwork is suffering. I mean, it seems to be a learning difference. They think maybe it’s a processing disorder, but nobody knows anything yet.

Nick: Is it serious?

Adam: It’s serious enough.

Nick: Sorry to hear that, adam. Sorry, man. Well, I guess my question is, what do you want? Or what do you think should be done?

Adam: I was angry at first. At the teachers. At the school. You know, I was ready to go down there and raise some hell. But sally and, uh, chelsea, they calmed me down.

Nick: Yeah, they are good at that.

Adam: Well, they see things the way that you do. You know, we gotta have faith in the school. And in connor, and he’s gotta have a sense of control on how to handle this. And he’s gotta know that we’re gonna work together as a team.

Nick: Well, for connor’s sake, I’m really glad you listened. Shows a lot of growth on your part, adam. You know, the fact that you were willing to listen to chelsea and sally and take their advice.

Adam: Yeah, well, I guess it’s something new for me. Putting my own feelings on hold for connor.

Nick: Yeah, it’s a tall order when your kid’s in pain. Even when it’s the best thing for him. Sometimes, the only thing you can do is just get in the car, go for a drive. Somewhere where you can scream your head off without, you know, causing any more problems.

Adam: Well, thank you for saying that.

Nick: I’ve been there a time or two.

Adam: I think that part of the reason I overreact is because there’s um, there’s a particular kind of loneliness when you feel ashamed of how you feel or just who you are. You know, I’ve felt like that for most of my life, and I never wanted connor to have a second of that. And there’s times that I still feel that way, but connor deserves to be at peace with himself more than I ever could.

Cole: Did it seem like jordan was just talking when she said that, or does she have a history of arson?

Claire: I have no idea. I never asked. But she said a lot of disturbing things that I wish she’d never put in my head. This? I wouldn’t put it past her. Huge fire. Complete chaos. She wouldn’t hesitate. She’d be proud of herself.

Victoria: Well, even if she was involved in the fire somehow or used it to her advantage to escape, she’s never coming near you again.

Cole: Listen, we’re gonna do whatever is necessary to keep you safe.

Claire: You’ve said those words before. And I thought they were just that, words. But I’m starting to feel that you really care. You want to protect me.

Victoria: You can absolutely trust that feeling, claire. Because it’s true. We care about you so much.

Cole: And as your father, it’s my job to keep you safe. You know, you went long enough without having anyone there to take care of you. And I don’t want you to ever be afraid again.

Claire: I’m not scared of jordan. I’M… angry, mostly. And filled with disgust, anytime I think of her.

Victoria: Well, that’s– that’s good. I mean, that is a good step in the healing process.

Claire: How’s nikki taking the news that jordan might have escaped? So with all these hilton honors points,

Lauren: All right, well, letw when nikki wants to meet and I will clear my calendar.

Jack: I can’t thank you enough.

Lauren: You already did. The day that I told you that I was over my head and I needed help, you stepped in without hesitation. And you became nikki’s sponsor. And that, my friend, is a big commitment.

Jack: It’s what we do for the people we love.

Lauren: That’s true.

Jack: Oh boy.

Lauren: What is it?

Jack: Nikki.

Lauren: “Call victor. Loot–” oh. “Lure him someplace to meet. As soon as possible. Please.”

Jack: Her texts are normally letter-perfect.

Lauren: She’s been drinking.

Jack: Oh, she is officially drunk and asking me to rescue her.

Lauren: Enable her is more like it.

Jack: Ah, what a mess.

Lauren: So what are you going to do?

Jack: It appears she’s left me little choice.

Adam: Look, I know that I– I brought that on myself. Feeling like I’m not a newman, that I don’t belong. So please don’t take that as an attack on you or victoria.

Nick: I won’T.

Adam: You have been making a real effort to give me a second chance and it means a lot.

Nick: Well, adam, you’ve been making an effort too. So, we’re even.

Adam: There’s something else that I’ve noticed is, when you’re watching your own child fight a battle against something difficult like this. You know, when you know that you’re powerless to fix it for them, it forces you to take on a new perspective.

Nick: Yeah, 100%, you know. Each and every one of my kids has put me through the wringer at some point. Whether it was, uh, you know, serious scrapes with the law or underage drinking. Or car wrecks. Or just, you know, shady companions being involved in a relationship where I knew it was going to be a disaster. They have all been involved in stuff where I knew they were going to get hurt and there wasn’t anything that I could do about it. And as a parent, that is tough to take and watch. Because it’s not like you can just pick them up out of any bad situation like you could when they were little. They gotta make mistakes. It’s the only way they can learn.

Adam: Yeah, I guess that’s true. I mean, noah, summer, faith, all of them. And yet somehow down the road, they’re all turning out okay.

Nick: Yeah. Pretty incredible, huh?

Adam: Not really, you know, given the dad they had.

Nick: No, no. I don’t take much credit for that.

Adam: Come on. You are the common denominator. You must have done something right.

Nick: Thanks. Might be the most sincere compliment you’ve ever given me.

Adam: Yeah, well, now, I’m– I’m about to give you another one. Because I am swallowing my pride and I’m asking you for any advice. Because I’m scared for connor so much that it hurts. So, I could, uh, really use some brotherly wisdom.

Victoria: My mother read about the fire online, so as you can imagine, she was pretty upset.

Claire: Nikki was always the target. As a way to make victor suffer. This must be so painful and frustrating for her. Has she been able to fight the effects of the alcohol jordan pumped into her?

Victoria: It’s been rough, but you know, she’s a strong woman. She’s been going to her A.A. Meetings and she’s been trying to get her old life back.

Claire: That’s good. I’ve had some nightmares about nikki getting into an accident because she was driving drunk. What jordan put her through, it just makes me really angry. And sad.

Cole: You know, this might be the first time that I’ve heard you put all of the blame on jordan. Not including yourself or drowning in guilt. Now, I am no expert, but to me, this sounds like another good step. Oh, here comes the bread guy.

Tessa: Talk to you tomorrow?

Abby: I’ll keep my fingers crossed. Bye.

Devon: Hey, see you. How’d it go?

Abby: I think she’s interested in being the day manager.

Devon: That’s fantastic.

Abby: Yes, and if she accepts, that means I am one step closer to joining forces with you at chancellor-winters.

Devon: Oh, that’s great. I’m happy that you’re so excited to join the team, even though nate seems to think that tucker’s lost interest in a takeover.

Abby: Ah, as happy as that would make me, I would not take nate’s word for it.

Devon: Oh, I agree.

Abby: And besides, tucker’s not the only reason why I want to join the board at chancellor-winters. I want to show you what I’m capable of in a corporate setting without anyone holding me back. And I want to have a say in dominic’s legacy.

Devon: And you know I’m all for that.

Abby: Mm. And at the top of the list is that I want to be more connected to you and to your world.

Devon: I love the sound of that very much.

Nick: Look, I know how hard it was for you to open up and ask for my– was it brotherly wisdom? Is that what you called it? Yeah. So, I will give you a straight answer.

Adam: Okay, lay it on me.

Nick: Just stay the course, man. Keep doing what you’re doing. Be cool, be calm. Trust the professionals, the teachers and the doctors at the school. But I would do my own research, if I was you, on what connor’s issues are and what’s going on with him. And get a second opinion. Talk to sharon. I know connor really likes sharon and she’s helped him before.

Adam: Yeah, that’s– that’s a great idea.

Nick: After you do all that, if you find out there’s a problem with the school or the way the faculty is treating connor, then you raise hell. And if you need a hand with that, you let me know.

Adam: Not too shabby. The advice. I’ll give it a whirl.

Nick: Let me know how it goes.

Adam: I will.

Claire: I’ve been working pretty hard with my therapist to understand the relationship I have with jordan. The woman who stole me from my family and then neglected to act like a mother. Or even pretend to love me. I have had my goal in therapy to let go of the guilt and accept that I was manipulated for years by a mentally ill adult who had control over my mind. The doctors say I’m doing well. And it will just take time to undo the damage that she did.

Cole: You’ll get there. I have complete faith in you.

Victoria: It seems that our daughter is starting to heal, on all fronts.

Bartender: That woman you described, she was here. Couldn’t say for sure what she was drinking.

[ Phone ringing ]

Victor: Yes.

Jack: I need to meet with you, it’s urgent.

Victor: I have no time.

Jack: It’s about nikki.

Victor: All right. My office in 15 minutes.

[ Phone ringing ]

[ Chelsea sighs ]

Chelsea: Hello, adam.

Adam: Hi, I’ve given connor’s situation some more thought.

Chelsea: Me too.

Adam: So, how do you want to handle this, do you want to drive there together?

Chelsea: I don’t think we should go.

Adam: What is that supposed to mean?

Chelsea: The last thing he needs right now is you running up there.

Adam: He has to know that he has my support. If you don’t want to go, that’s your decision, but I’m going. I already called him.

Chelsea: You did what? What did you say?

Adam: I left him a voicemail and I told him to call me back. I want to talk to him directly and tell him that I’m on my way.

Chelsea: Adam, just do me a favor, okay? Do not speak to connor or go anywhere until we can discuss this together in person.

Adam: Fine. I’m at society.

Chelsea: Okay, I’ll be there as soon as I can.

[ Chelsea sighs ]

Billy: I take it that was adam and he hasn’t changed his mind.

Chelsea: No, he hasn’t changed his mind, he plans to go straight to the school and yank connor out.

Billy: Just like him. Add fuel to the fire.

Chelsea: I have to stop him.

Billy: I know. I get it. Just do me a favor, okay? Take a breath.

[ Chelsea breathes deeply ] Just enjoy the tea with me for a second. Because we both know if you go hard on adam–

Chelsea: He’ll dig in, and make things worse.

Devon: Well, sharon, we really appreciate all the presentations that your team sent over on how our companies can partner.

Nate: Yes, yes, you’ve done a great job positioning cassidy first technology.

Sharon: Well, thank you. We, uh, put a lot of time into these proposals, and I made it a priority because I really believe that we can do great things with chancellor-winters. Our tech and your content. But I know that pitch decks only go so far, so I wanted to meet in person to see if there’s anything else I can answer for you. Um, are we waiting for billy?

Devon: We’re not, no, just going to be us today, and i think you’ve already addressed our follow-up questions.

Sharon: Great. Well, I hope that means you’re ready to make a deal.

[ Traci sighs ]

Ashley: Ca va?

Traci: Oh, oh, oh.

Ashley: I’m sorry I’m late.

Traci: I’m so glad to see you, I was afraid maybe you had changed your mind about meeting here. I wouldn’t– I wouldn’t blame you, of course. You sure you don’t want to go somewhere else? This place must be very triggering, you know? A constant reminder of the fight with tucker.

Ashley: Well, actually, what’s triggering is being told that my memory’s wrong.

Traci: Yes, very upsetting, I’m sure, um, the possibility that you might have exaggerated tucker’s anger. Memories can be tricky.

Ashley: Yeah, I didn’t exaggerate anything at all. It’s good that I’m back here, so I can remember what happened. What really happened. I can look that– that waiter in the eye, and I know that he’s lying because tucker paid him off. Did I tell you that tucker actually suggested that I come back to this cafe, and question the waiter? Clearly, a setup.

Traci: Well, I certainly wouldn’t put it past tucker to try to pull something like that. It’s what he does.

Ashley: Exactly.

Traci: I do think that we should prepare ourselves for another possibility.

Ashley: And what would that be?

Traci: That he didn’t pay them. That they’re telling the truth.

Did you know…

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by… nothing brings us together like eggland’s best eggs.

Ashley: I can’t believe that you’re actually taking tucker’s side, and giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Traci: I’m not taking tucker’s side, I’m– I’m sure that his– his anger was terrifying. I’m just questioning whether he paid off the staff.

Ashley: Mm-hmm, well, you know that he’s capable of anything and everything, right?

Traci: Agreed, but did he do this particular thing this time?

Ashley: Of course he did, traci. When I called him to confront him, he basically doubled down.

Traci: You called him?

Ashley: Yes. He will do anything at all. He just wants to punish me. He wants to make me pay because I didn’t cut ties with jabot. And he’s such an egomaniac. He’s– he’s threatened by the thought that i could actually love anybody more than him.

Traci: Well, of course that’s absurd, ashley, you have a huge heart. And I am here to help you protect it.

Ashley: It would help me if you would trust that I know what I’m talking about.

Traci: Of course I trust you.

Ashley: Because he’s capable of anything, like I said. He would have no qualms paying off an entire waitstaff, let alone one waiter. His whole life revolves around revenge. That’s what he’s doing. He’s trying to make me think that something’s wrong with me just to get back at me. Well, it’s not going to work! I’m on to him! Sorry. I’m so sorry, I’m ruining this night, aren’t I?

Traci: No. No, it’s fine.

Ashley: I am. We’re in paris. I’m with my sister. I’m not going to let tucker ruin this, too, okay? I’m sorry. Let’s get some wine.

[ Traci laughs ] Garçon?

Devon: I’m glad that you wanted to meet with us in person because I know how easy it is to get distracted by outside concerns. But, uh, I think that we are ready to make some decisions about the deal today. Right, nate?

Nate: Yes, yes. Absolutely. Uh, we’ve run it by lily, but we’re still waiting on billy and jill’s final sign-off.

Sharon: They haven’t agreed?

Devon: They have to the partnership, but we still just need to run by the specific points with them, and I’m very confident we’ll be able to get you the paperwork you need by this afternoon.

Sharon: That would be amazing. I know no deal is really done until the paperwork is signed, but I have to say, I’m optimistic.

Devon: I am, too, I really am, as long as you guys like what we send to you, I don’t see why we can’t get this partnership solidified within the next few weeks.

Sharon: That sounds great. Okay, well, I better get back to the office, and prep my team.

Devon: Yes.

Sharon: This is exciting!

Devon: It’s very exciting. I think this partnership makes perfect sense. Thank you for having that dream.

[ Nate laughing ]

Sharon: Sometimes, our unconscious bubbles up some inspired ideas.

Nate: Well, with any luck, we’ll be sipping on some different bubbles very soon.

Devon: Yes. We’ll be in touch. Have a good rest of your day.

Sharon: You, too.

Devon: Well, congratulations, man, looks like this is the first big deal you’ve landed since being back.

[ Nate clears throat ] What the hell is going on between you and audra?

[ Nate sighs ]

Audra: Are you staring at me to distract from the fact that devon’s over there ignoring you?

Tucker: Is devon here? Ah, there he is. What do you know?

Audra: Yeah, very funny.

Tucker: I only have eyes for you right now.

[ Audra chuckles ]

Audra: Sorry, but this just doesn’t sound like the tucker I know.

Tucker: I’m serious. I feel so close to you right now. Closer than I ever have. Do you not feel the same?

Audra: I– I feel a shift in our dynamic. I just hope it lasts.

Rsv can severely affect

Chelsea: Thank you so much. Yes, that approach makes sense. I will speak to his father and fill him in. Okay. Bye-bye. Oh, see? This is why I love that school.

Billy: They’re on top of things.

Chelsea: Yes, they said they will keep an eye on connor. They will work on getting him back to his sleep schedule, and they’ll make sure he’s eating again because he’s been so upset that he hasn’t been able to think about food.

Billy: That’s good. Just get him back to basics. He’ll be all right.

Chelsea: The way they explained things was really, really helpful, so I just have to make adam understand it’s not the right time to go visit connor. Let’s see if he takes their advice.

Billy: You want me to join you for moral support?

Chelsea: I would love that, but I think that would set adam off even more. Thank you for the tea and the advice.

Billy: Of course.

Sharon: Hey there.

Chelsea: Oh, sharon. Hi. Congrats again on your launch.

Sharon: Thank you. Thank you so much.

Chelsea: I want to hear more about it, but unfortunately, I have to run, I’ll– I’ll see you soon, though. Wish me luck.

Billy: I’ll check in with you later.

Chelsea: Okay.

[ Billy sighs ]

Sharon: So, how are things going?

Billy: Uh, yeah. Everything’s good. Chelsea’s just dealing with some co-parenting issues.

Sharon: Well, I hope connor’s okay.

Billy: I think he’s going to be just fine. Of course, adam is handling it the way you would expect adam to handle it.

Sharon: Is that why, uh, you weren’t at the meeting today with devon and nate?

Billy: What meeting?

Sharon: To finalize the partnership.

Billy: I wasn’t aware there was a meeting. And I don’t have anything in my calendar. Who set this meeting, sharon? Because I assume that I should have been a part of it.

Sharon: Well, I had reached out to devon, but I just assumed you’d be there.

Billy: Yeah, well, nothing’s getting finalized without me, so I assumed I should have been there, too. But I guess devon doesn’t agree.

Sharon: Oh, well, I don’t think it was anything like that. Um, and nothing has been finalized. He said that he’s going to run the numbers by jill and you, and then send them over later.

Billy: And yet no fresh emails, and my phone isn’t ringing.

Nate: There’s nothing going on between audra and me.

Devon: Then, why do you keep looking over at her?

Nate: She and i worked closely together. I just hate to see her get sucked back into tucker’s drama again. I thought she’d finally shaken him off.

Devon: Yeah, but who cares? She’s a grown woman. And after everything tucker’s done, I’m sure she’s aware of it. And the fact that she’s sitting over there holding his hand should tell you all you need to know about her.

Nate: You may be right.

Devon: I am definitely right. And I would recommend that you steer clear of her. Because she’s nothing but drama. And you don’t need her drawing you back into a place that your family doesn’t want you to be in.

Audra: You’re not really a public display of affection guy.

Tucker: You haven’t pulled your hand away.

Audra: I don’t hate it.

Tucker: Mm.

Audra: But that doesn’t mean you can distract me from business.

Tucker: Ugh.

Audra: So, what happens now?

Tucker: Well, bringing you back changes my original plan, so I’ll have to do some thinking about it.

Audra: Work it out together? It shouldn’t be that hard. After all, I was going to run glissade when your plan was to fold it into jabot. So you must have had a plan when you first asked me to join you. Okay, come here. Look, everything you wanted to have with ashley, you can have with me. Only it will be real. Not some fantasy or unattainable ideal. Hey, if I’m in, I am all the way in. And you claim you are too.

Tucker: 100%. Never doubt that. And I’m glad to be there. But right now, can we just bask in the afterglow? Being us, over a nice lunch, without talking business?

Audra: Yeah, of course. Just remember, you make promises. And I’m going to make sure you remember every single one of them.

Tucker: Yes, ma’am.

[ Tucker sighs ]

Ashley: Sorry about that. Oh, tucker just upsets me.

Traci: I wish that you could see that when you let him do that, you let him win. I really don’t like that you called him. The only way to take back control is to not think about him at all.

Ashley: I was trying to do that, that’s why I came here, was to get closure. Instead, I was just faced with a bunch of tucker’s new lies. I just have to go in another direction.

Traci: Well, I hope that direction includes exorcising him from your thoughts and moving on with your life.

Tucker: I’m done. Goodbye, ashley. Go to hell.

Traci: Ashley? Pain hits fast.

Traci: Ashley. Oh, I knew that coming here was a mistake.

Ashley: I keep thinking about tucker’s version of what happened here and he’s wrong. It did not happen that way.

Traci: Okay, you know what? Why don’t we go get on that jet and go home? We’ve learned all we can here. Why stay the night?

Ashley: Yeah, I’m not ready to give up or go home.

Traci: But what else is there for us to do?

Ashley: If tucker can get the waiter to lie, then maybe I can get him to tell the truth.

Traci: And how are you gonna do that? Offer him your own bribe?

Ashley: Of course not. I could pay him for his time.

Traci: Ashley, any waiter who can be bought by the highest bidder is never going to tell you the truth. I think we have to face the possibility we’ve reached a dead end here.

Ashley: I’m not accepting defeat.

Traci: I wish you wouldn’t think of it as win or lose. How about moving on with your life? Ashley, the waiter lied or he didn’t lie. We’re not going to know unless we hook him up to a lie detector test.

Ashley: Well, I could make the suggestion.

Traci: Please, you’ve got to find a way to let this all go and I will do everything in my power to help you. And so will jack, and so will billy. Come on, let’s just go home.

Ashley: Please.

Traci: Surrounded by people who love you.

Ashley: Stop treating me with kid gloves, please. What, you think I’m going crazy?

Chelsea: Thank you for waiting.

[ Adam clears throat ]

Adam: Mm-hmm, of course. Nothing is more important than our son.

Chelsea: I know how much you love him, adam. And I– I know that’s why you get so, uh, intense.

Adam: Yes, yes, I overreacted when I first heard, I threatened to pull him out of the school, but it’s only because I care about him so much.

Chelsea: We both do. And that’s why we have to do what’s best for connor.

Adam: Agreed.

Chelsea: Okay, uh, well, i spoke to his guidance counselor and the head of the school, and they are going to put some protocols in place. They’re going to make some accommodations. Get him some more tutoring. And, uh, evaluate him to figure out what’s going on. So, it is a long process and when you’re diagnosing a learning difference, it does take time. And, um, it’s very specific. So they think that we should wait until parents weekend to go visit.

Adam: And you made all of these decisions already without me?

Chelsea: Um, no. Actually, I was just getting advice as to what to do here. Um, I just needed their advice as to what to do and make sure and clarify that we should wait before we go visit our son at school.

Adam: You mean you were getting more ammunition to back up your opinion?

Chelsea: I think that creating conflict is probably not a good thing for our son right now is what I’m saying.

Adam: Or, in other words, you think that I’m going to make a scene.

Chelsea: Adam, you just admitted that you overreacted when I told you about this in the first place.

Adam: That’s because I’m playing catch up, responding to partial information.

Chelsea: What are you talking about? I’m here talking to you so we can be on the same page.

Adam: Okay, do I get any input?

Chelsea: Of course you get input.

Adam: Connor called you, you called the school, and now you are making decisions about connor before anybody has consulted me.

Chelsea: If you just listen to me–

Adam: Chelsea, he has two parents. You don’t get to call all the shots.

Nate: You still think I’m one slip away from betraying our family again, after all I’ve done to repair things.

Devon: Well, listen, something caused you to betray us before, right? You didn’t just do it. And I suspect that your weakness has to do with the temptation of wanting more.

Nate: What is that supposed to mean?

Devon: It means that having ambition is fine and great as long as it doesn’t cloud your judgment and lead you to make bad decisions that only serve yourself and not the company that you work for. And victoria was the road to you doing that. And from what I’ve seen, it just– I feel like audra presents that same temptation.

Tucker: You think you’ll ever really trust me?

Audra: You’re the one who taught me to never fully trust anyone. I know you don’t trust me. You suspect I have my own agenda.

Tucker: Yeah. That’s part of the thrill. How alike we are. How we keep each other on our toes.

Audra: Well then, where does that leave us?

Tucker: Hm. In our happy place. Ah. I don’t want you to ever tell me your plan of your own accord. I want to figure it out on my own. It’s much more thrilling for me.

Audra: Look, I’m not sure being constantly suspicious of each other is as romantic as you think it is.

Tucker: Oh, well, what could be more romantic? We thrive on– on mystery, on piecing everything together. And there’s always the chance we could seduce information from each other. I certainly look forward to doing that with you. I look forward to everything with you.

Audra: Salud.

Tucker: Salud. (Vo) if you have graves’ disease,

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Devon: All right. We should get back to the office so we can get jill and billy to sign off on these numbers and get them to sharon.

Nate: I’m actually surprised billy didn’t show up for this meeting. Was he tied up?

Devon: Uh, no. No he wasn’T. I just figured that you’d been running the numbers and working it, so we’d keep the meeting tight. What?

Nate: I mean, I’m flattered. I’m just wondering how billy would take that.

Devon: I mean, there’s nothing to take. There’s– there’s no reason for the three of us to meet. Sharon didn’t bring her executive team.

Nate: True, but she brought the idea to the two of you in the first place, didn’t she?

Devon: She did. Yeah. But this is just one of many meetings over the course of this partnership, so he’ll be at the next one.

Tucker: Yeah. Devon’s resolve is impressive. He doesn’t even glance my way anymore.

Audra: See? There it is.

Tucker: What?

Audra: I mean, you claim it doesn’t hurt, but you’re not as cold-blooded as you pretend to be.

Tucker: Hey, I– i tried to repair things with him. If he doesn’t want me in his life, I can’t force the issue. Nate, on the other hand, he couldn’t keep his eyes off you. I don’t think he liked, uh, you giving me the time of day. He seemed to hate it.

Audra: Or maybe he just hates you.

[ Tucker laughs ]

Tucker: But he wouldn’t be the first, would he? Nah, he’s obviously got a thing for you. Those, uh, those trysts you said you two were having. Truth?

Audra: Do you really want to know? Wouldn’t that break our rules of engagement, of keeping each other guessing?

Tucker: I think that applies just to business.

Audra: Ah. You’re jealous.

Tucker: Yeah. Maybe a little. He is younger and better looking than me. But I’m still curious as to why he was shooting daggers our way.

Audra: Nate’s just a friend. Yeah, I know you don’t know what those are.

[ Audra laughs ] But friends are protective of each other.

Tucker: And what is nate protecting you from, exactly?

Audra: You.

Tucker: Yeah. Little does he know, I’m putty in your hands.

Audra: Mm. He just wants to make sure you don’t wield any undue influence over me.

Tucker: Mm-hmm. And, uh, just how much influence does nate wield over you?

Audra: Never as much as you.

Adam: Thi– this is why I need to go to the school. And I need to talk to connor and the school staff myself because nobody seems fit to include me.

Chelsea: Oh, okay. I see what this is about. Your ego is bruised because connor called me first. For god’s sake, adam, he’s a kid!

Adam: Yeah, and that’s why he shouldn’t be alone to deal with this, chelsea.

Chelsea: You think I don’t want to run to that school and hug connor so tight and tell him everything’s going to be okay? Of course I do.

Adam: Okay. Then let’s do it.

[ Chelsea scoffs ] Why are you fighting me on this? Why are you acting like this is the worst idea in the world to go reassure our son who is hurting right now? You were the one who told me how upset he was on the phone. Okay, I need to see him, and I need to reassure him that everything is going to be okay.

Chelsea: It’s not about you! Ugh, adam, it’s no– it’s not about you. Put yourself in connor’s shoes. He is struggling. He was just told he needs learning accommodations at a school he was going to because he felt different. So, no, we’re not going. The school says it will make him feel worse, it will put a spotlight on him and that is the last thing he needs.

[ Chelsea sighing ] I’m sorry. I was trying not to lose my cool.

[ Chelsea sighs ]

Adam: No, it’S… you’re– you’re absolutely right. My late father-in-law lit up a room,

Chelsea: You think I’m right?

Adam: So is the school. Turning this into a big deal, making it some– some tragedy is not the way to go. It just kills me to think that he’s beating himself up over this or he’s depressed and he’s overwhelmed. And us not being there, it’s the worst.

Chelsea: But we will be there for him. In the right way, at the right time.

Adam: Thank you.

Chelsea: For going off on you?

Adam: For pushing me to– to see what’s best for connor.

Chelsea: Sometimes, it’s hard to know what that is. Adam, you don’t think I hate the fact that connor sought out this school in the first place because of me?

Adam: What? No, chelsea, no, I’m– I’m not going to let you blame yourself for connor’s issue. Okay, I get that instinct. I do it too. And sally helped me see that. You were right. Yes, I was upset that connor called you first, but it wasn’t because of my ego. It was because I felt like I let him down. If I had just been a better father, you know, hell, if I had– had just been there for him when he was little.

Chelsea: Sally’s right. Connor knows how much you love him. So do I. I have to be honest with you. I’m– I’m surprised to see you come around like this. In the past, you…

Adam: Probably would have dug in and doubled down.

Chelsea: Yeah, exactly.

Adam: I’m working on controlling my less than productive tendencies.

Chelsea: Oh, well look at you.

[ Phone ringing ]

Adam: It’s connor. What do I say? You want to wait? Should I call him back?

Chelsea: Answer it. Let’s talk to him together.

Adam: Connor, buddy. I’m here with your mom.

Billy: Hey.

Devon: Hey, billy.

Billy: So, I heard you had a meeting with sharon about finalizing the partnership.

Devon: Yes, we did. And it went really well, actually. And nate has some numbers to share with you and jill, so we can get them back over to sharon as soon as possible.

Billy: Seems like something I should have been a part of. Sharon agrees, actually. Is there a reason why I was excluded?

Devon: You weren’t excluded on purpose. The meeting just came together quickly and I knew we wanted to keep the ball rolling, so I made it happen. We didn’t sign any contracts or anything like that.

Billy: Well, you can’T. Not without me.

Nate: Uh, billy, if you have any issues with the numbers, uh, we can adjust. Nothing’s been set in stone.

Devon: Yeah, nobody’s making deals behind your back. We told sharon that we have to run all the points by you and jill. And I think you’re going to be really impressed, too, because nate’s done a fantastic job.

Nate: This is going to be an exciting venture. Lots of potential.

Billy: Great. Happy to hear that. So let’s just chalk it up to a scheduling mishap. Make sure it doesn’t happen again. Because this is all about collaboration, right? That’s how we keep chancellor-winters strong.

Devon: Yeah.

Nate: Agreed. Mm-hmm.

Billy: Great. Because I don’t think we’re free of tucker’s threat. So, let’s get this deal done as soon as we can, so we become so big that he can’t mess with us. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a meeting of my own. Give me those numbers when you can, and I’ll get to them. Thanks, guys.

Devon: Yep.

Traci: I swear, I am not implying there is anything wrong with your mental state. I’m just saying, tucker has worked his way into your head. He’s taking up undeserved space there. He’s not worth it.

Ashley: Damn right, he’s not.

Traci: And I really believe that it would just be better for you to move on, surrounded by your family. Staying here in paris, it’s just reminding you of the trauma.

Ashley: Yeah. You’re not wrong. This place has a lot of bad energy. I can’t wait to be rid of it.

Traci: Oh, thank god. Thank god. Let’s go home. I will call the jet.

Ashley: I’m not ready to go. I’m not leaving. To 50 years with my best friend.

Chelsea: Okay, mister. Well, we can’t wait to see you over parents weekend.

Adam: Yeah, you got this. We love you.

Billy: I take it that’s connor. How’s he doing?

Chelsea: Yeah, he sounded good, right?

Adam: Uh, he’s a little shaky, but I think he’s on board with the school’s plan.

Chelsea: Yeah, well, he sounded a lot better than the first time I spoke to him, so…

Billy: Great. Glad to hear that.

Adam: I think he’s relieved that there’s a solution. He seemed to relax a little bit when he realized that other kids deal with similar issues.

Chelsea: Yeah, and we’re going to set up a schedule for video calls so we can check in on him every once in a while.

Adam: Low-key. Not to make it seem like there’s anything wrong.

Chelsea: Yes. Just to show support and tell him how excited we are for our next visit.

Billy: Well, that’s great. Sounds like a very solid plan. I have to say, it’s really nice to see you both in a cooperative space.

Adam: In other words, you think I would revert to form and run up there and blow up?

Billy: In one word, yeah.

Adam: Well, luckily, chelsea helped me see that that was not the way to go.

Chelsea: Actually, I’m the one that went off on adam this time.

Adam: Well, in a good way, for good reason. I assume you know how lucky you are to have her in your life.

Billy: I do indeed.

Nate: Do you agree with billy about tucker still being a threat to the company? I’ve been focused on your personal relationship with tucker. Wasn’t thinking in terms of him coming after chancellor-winters.

Devon: Well, business and… personal, family, are one and the same for tucker, so…

Nate: So, you are worried?

Devon: I mean, I try not to worry about things I can’t control, but I’m not going to let my guard down. The plan is to keep him out of every part of my life, which he’s aware of, but he’s also aware that I’m keeping my eyes out for any moves that he makes.

Nate: I don’t know. I don’t see tucker as an imminent threat to chancellor-winters. He just fired the board at glissade, hired a new group of loyalists. There’s still a lot of damage control to do before he thinks of looking elsewhere.

Devon: Yeah, but his whole life is damage control, which he thrives on. So, I think we all just need to stay on alert.

Nate: Well, you know, if– if tucker is making a move, there could be an advantage to having audra as a friend.

Audra: Ah. Now that we’ve enjoyed our pleasant lunch, how about you tell me what your plans are for next steps at glissade?

Tucker: Patience is not your best attribute, is it?

Audra: Nor yours. Why can’t you just tell me, okay? Why are you stalling?

Tucker: Didn’t we say that keeping each other guessing is more exciting?

Audra: Sure. About the long game. But we’re talking short term. You can’t keep me in the dark, tucker. I need to know if I made a mistake opening up to you.

Tucker: You didn’T. I promise. Wow.

Ashley: I’m going to stay. I need to talk this out with someone.

[ Traci sighs ]

Traci: Okay, if that’s what you want, and that’s what you need, then that is what we will do. I will stay here with you, and I will listen.

Ashley: I want you to go. I need you to go. Please, alone. I’m going to stay here and talk this out with a friend of mine that’s in paris. I need peace of mind right now, more than anything. I need peace of mind.

Tucker: Now’s really not the best time.

Audra: Your moods are relentless these days. Now, what’s wrong?

Tucker: Nothing I’m prepared to discuss at this time.

Audra: Oh, you don’t need to. This is about Ashley, isn’t it? She’s yanking your chain yet again. And you’re letting it get to you.

***************************

Sally: You know kids. They don’t like to draw attention. Connor isn’t shutting you out. I’m sure he’s just trying to keep a low profile.

Adam: What– what if it’s deeper than that?

Sally: What do you mean?

Adam: He trusts Chelsea more than he trusts me for a reason. I wasn’t around for so long. For years that– that really matter to kids. He lived without a dad and he got used to it. But, I mean, hey, I was just keeping up a family tradition.

Sally: You’re not victor.

Adam: No, it’s more than that. My father grew up without his father and I grew up without my dad. So now what, it’s Connor’s turn? And, I mean, if he grows up resenting me for not being around, for feeling distant, or that he can’t depend on me, how can I blame him, or even Chelsea? All of this is on me.

Lucy: Hey, dad. We still on for later? Hello? Your daughter’s speaking to you.

Daniel: Hey, um, your father is listening. What’s up?

Lucy: You forgot.

Daniel: Forgot what?

Lucy: Really?

Daniel: Hey, I’m– I’m sorry. I just– I got this deadline. And– [ Sighs ]

Lucy: You’re not busy. You were just staring into space like– like this.

Daniel: Okay, cool. Thank you for the mockery. You have my undivided attention.

Lucy: So, you know how you want me to, like, talk about my feelings and stuff?

Daniel: Mm-hmm. Always.

Lucy: So, you should tell me why you’ve been so grumpy all morning. You yelled at the coffee machine earlier, and you’ve obviously forgotten that I don’t have school today, and we were going to go to the gallery show.

Daniel: Oh, yeah, right.

Lucy: You sound just like mom.

Daniel: What is that supposed to mean?

Lucy: I asked her if she was still planning on coming with us and she basically said the exact same thing. “Oh, yeah, right.”

***********************=************=***************

Tucker: Bonjour, Ashley. I know where you are. And I know what you’re doing. I’m trying to stay out of it but I just can’t. You could be at the bistro this very minute. And I hope you are, because the suspense is killing me. Not that there’s any question about what the staff would tell you. What I’m dying to know is how you’ll react to the truth, what happens when you finally come face to face with reality.

Ashley: Son of a bitch.

Tucker: Morning.

Nate: Morning. Coffee, please.

Tucker: So are you and Audra an item now?

Nate: Why do you ask?

Tucker: Oh, you seem pretty cozy up in her suite. I saw the sparkle in her eyes. She may have said something.

Nate: I seriously doubt that. But if Audra and I are an item or not, that’s none of your business

**†******************************************”””***

Tucker: You will never understand the bond that audra and I share.

Nate: But I do. You’re alone. You’ve got nothing, no one. So you cling to some fantasy that there’s more to that bond with audra than there actually is. You’re no good for her, tucker. So if you care about audra, you’ll let her go. Man, she is brilliant and talented, but she’ll never achieve her true potential with your dead weight around her neck.

Tucker: She’s gotten pretty far with my dead weight around her neck.

Nate: Oh, I’m sure she’d appreciate you taking all the credit.

[ Scoffs ]

Tucker: I have supported Audra all this time because I understand her. And she understands me. We understand each other. That’s why I know she’s got something in the works, something aimed at me. You know anything about it?

Nate: No clue.

Tucker: No clue. Her confidence is alluring, isn’t it? I have a sneaking suspicion that she thinks she can get one over on me, and she would be very insulted if I just let it slide. So please tell your friend– or your lover or whatever the hell she is for you– that I’m onto her. And if you’re thinking of throwing in with her in this little game, as smart as you think you are, you can’t beat me.

Phyllis: You seemed to enjoy yourself. I certainly did. There’s obviously a lot of heat between us. I think that we should explore what could come next.

Danny: There is no next. I’m not interested. says otherwise.

Danny: Look, would you just stop it, please? Whatever this– this flirtation, or whatever you want to call it, is completely one-sided and it can’t go anywhere.

Phyllis: It could if you let it.

Danny: I don’t want it to. Don’t you understand? There’s too much history and a lot of it bad and you’re still you. Look, I’m sorry if that sounds harsh, but you’re not listening, and I need to get through to you. I really do.

Phyllis: That’s not fair. That’s not fair. I’ve changed. You know I’ve changed. You know that. How many times have you said that lately that I’ve changed? So you see it. You believe it.

Danny: I want to, if only for Daniel’s sake. I have worked really hard to convince myself, and then you pull a stunt like this. Posting that video, implying that there’s something romantic going on between us when you know that there’s not. So, no. From my standpoint, no, you haven’t changed at all.

“””********************************

Danny: This is pointless.

Phyllis: I beg to differ.

Danny: Look, would you just forget the kiss, all right? That’s the least of it. Posting that video online, suggesting that we’re romantically involved? That was way out of line.

Phyllis: Are you kidding me right now? Really? You’re a rock star. People post videos of you all the time, Danny. Walking down the street, eating at a restaurant. As long as it’s respectful, it’s fine. Or maybe this is about something else. Is it? Is it about your precious Christine? That you want her to feel safe, and I feel–

Danny: Wrong.

Phyllis: Excuse me?

Danny: This isn’t gonna work. It doesn’t feel good. It doesn’t feel right. Maybe some version of friends, for Daniel’s sake, but… anything else, no. Never.

Danny: Hey, gorgeous. Boy, am I glad to see you.

Christine: Oh, wait. What, did Phyllis get called away on an emergency? Is that why you suddenly have free time? video of me at the piano
