Claire: My favorite greek goddess? Probably athena. Her name means “queen of heaven.” She was zeus’ favorite daughter. She was very powerful. And beloved.

Nadia: What was she the goddess of?

Claire: Wisdom and courage. Especially at war. But she cherished kindness and peace. So that’s kind of ironic, huh? Here. There’s a picture of her with her spear and her helmet and her shield. And sometimes she would use her father’s thunderbolts as weapons when her city was threatened. Athens, greece. Athena. Athens.

Nadia: Oh, that makes sense.

Claire: Right? And athena wasn’t afraid of anything or anyone. Which is kind of amazing, right? To be that brave. So, men would pray to her before they would go into battle or when they faced big challenges. Because it’s hard to do things on your own sometimes, right? And it’s okay to ask for help. And then sometimes, you get to be the fearless one who helps others.

Adam: Morning.

Nick: Hey.

Adam: Where’s dad?

Nick: Uh, I was just wondering that myself.

Adam: What, did you get a summons too?

Nick: Yeah. Sounded urgent.

Adam: Well, I’m surprised that he didn’t beat us here. Any idea what that’s about?

Adam: Jordan? Victoria? Nikki? All of the above? I mean, family’s been taking it from all sides lately.

Nick: I suppose it could be about business.

[ Phones chiming ] From dad. “Unavoidably detained. I’ll be there when I can.”

Adam: Well, that doesn’t sound good.

Victor: Well, thank you for staying on top of this, all right? At least now we know what we’re dealing with. All right, keep me informed. Hi, my sweetheart. How’d you sleep?

Nikki: Not very well. And I would appreciate it if you would stop tiptoeing around me.

Victor: What in the world are you talking about?

Nikki: You ended that call the minute I entered the room. You were talking about me. And we agreed that we wouldn’t keep things from each other.

Victor: Well, my dear, for your information, I wasn’t talking about you, okay? I was talking about jordan. In all my travels I’ve never seen such dry skin.

Announcer: Additional

Nikki: What about jordan?

Victor: My security team has been in touch with the prison authorities, and apparently the fire there was due to arson.

Nikki: Well, I figured that.

Victor: All the bodies have been identified. Of the surviving inmates, six are unaccounted for.

Nikki: She is one of them.

Victor: So it seems. But I do not want you to worry about it, okay? She’ll be found. She’ll slip up somewhere along the line. Then she’ll be recaptured. I promise you.

Nikki: Wishing won’t make it so. We need to turn the tables on her, lure her into some kind of a trap.

Victor: Sweetheart, I have considered that, and I knew that is what you were thinking. But I’m not going to have you use yourself as bait.

Nikki: But I…

Victor: End of discussion. I will not put you in that kind of jeopardy. You’re going to stay here. At the ranch. Work from here.

Nikki: I am not going to let that woman turn me into a prisoner again, locked up in this house. I won’t be able to stand it.

Victor: Sweetheart, you can and you will. Not only to keep you safe from jordan, but also to keep you safe from being tempted by alcohol again.

Nikki: It doesn’t work that way. If an alcoholic is determined to drink, they will find a way.

Victor: Sweetheart, you know damn well that I removed all the alcohol in this house.

Nikki: Yes.

Victor: All right? So there’s no way you can drink. Please go along with me on that.

Nikki: Fine. We’ll do it your way.

Victor: It’s for your own good, sweetheart. Okay. I’ve got to go to the office and deal with a few things.

Nikki: All right.

[ Victor sighs ]

Victor: My baby. Come here. This nightmare will come to an end. I promise you. Okay? I’ll keep in touch with you.

Nikki: Okay.

Claire: This book taught me so much about athena. One time, she and poseidon, the god of the sea, got into a contest.

Claire: Hi. I didn’t see you there.

Victoria: Hi. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt.

Claire: No, not at all. There’s someone I’d like you to meet. Victoria, this is nadia. Next week is her birthday. She’s gonna be seven.

Victoria: Oh. Wow! Well, happy almost birthday, nadia. It’s nice to meet you.

Nadia: Nice to meet you, too.

Claire: Victoria is my mother. She comes to visit me most days like your mom comes to visit you.

Victoria: So, how did you two meet?

Claire: Well, nadia had pneumonia. She’s feeling a lot better, though. And I’ve been taking my walks to the kids’ ward. So, when nadia heard that I have a book of greek mythology that you brought me, she got really excited because she loves stories. So, the staff agreed to let her come to my room so I could show it to her.

Nurse: It’s been very entertaining, but we need to get nadia back to her room.

Claire: Of course. If you’re still here tomorrow, we’ll read some more. Sound good? Cool.

[ Claire chuckles ]

Nadia: Bye.

Claire: Bye.

Victoria: Bye. I had no idea that you were so good with children.

Claire: Neither did I. Uh, yeah, god knows how that happened, since I never really had a childhood.

Victoria: No, no. You didn’T. You didn’t have the life that you deserved at all.

Claire: But seeing the kids, maybe we have something in common. We’re scared to be here, and we’re not in complete control of our lives. But seeing them, it makes me feel stronger. Like they need help, and maybe I can give it.

Victoria: That’s really a wonderful way to look at it. That makes me really happy for them. I’m so proud of you. With moderate to severe plaque psoriasis,

Claire: Being with the kids, it gives me energy. Their minds go in a million directions at once.

Victoria: Oh, yeah, I know.

Claire: If I’m going to keep up, I have to get out of my own head. You know, it’s kind of like they’re the perfect distraction in a way.

Victoria: Yeah, well, I guess kids have a way of doing that.

Claire: Yeah, they want to show me their stuffed animals, or talk about the volunteer who told them all about rocks, or the one who gave out magnets.

Victoria: Oh, they do that?

Claire: Yeah. A lot of people come around to help make things easier on the kids.

Victoria: Huh, well, I guess it’s instinctual to want to make a child happy.

Claire: Not for everyone, but I’m starting to figure out I am the kind of person who wants to make a kid smile if I can. It’s the best therapy possible.

Victoria: Better than your actual therapy?

[ Claire sighs ]

Claire: My daily sessions are– are draining. I just– we talk about the same things over and over again. It’s just the years of misery and– and brainwashing. All the horrible things and all the terrible feelings.

Victoria: I’m sorry.

Claire: I know, I make it sound awful, but I understand why I have to do it. And the harder I work, the harder I want to keep working, so I can get better.

Victoria: We all want that for you. The whole family’s pulling for you, claire.

Victoria: It helps so much to know that. I didn’t know what support looks like until I met you and cole. Is there any news about jordan?

Victoria: I don’t want you to give her another thought. I want you to completely put her out of your mind and just let law enforcement handle things.

Claire: I’m sure it’s going to be fine, I just–

Victoria: You deserve for jordan to be nothing but a distant memory to you. And hopefully one day she won’t even be a memory at all.

Chloe: So you asked me to meet. Does that mean you have some good news for me?

Sally: No good news yet, but I’m sure there will be some down the line. Look, our last project is almost complete, and once we put the finishing touches on it, I really think it’s gonna photograph beautifully.

Chloe: Yeah, I appreciate you putting a spin on it, but that was our last job. We have nothing on deck. So, unless, I don’t know, we can drum up some new business like yesterday…

Sally: We are in serious trouble. Everything we worked for, we– we could lose it all.

Adam: Sure you don’t want a refill?

Nick: No, I’m good. Thanks.

Adam: All right. Suit yourself. Well, since we are stuck here waiting, uh, there’s something that I wanted to run by you.

Nick: Am I gonna like this?

Adam: One way to find out.

Nick: Okay, what do you got?

Victor: Sorry for being late.

Nick: Everything all right?

Victor: Well… men to men, I got some news about the fire in the prison. Apparently it was arson. And that jordan woman is missing. She survived.

Adam: Meaning she escaped.

Victor: Yeah.

Nick: Did jordan plan this? Did she set the fire?

Victor: Well, so far there’s no evidence of that, but I wouldn’t put it past her.

Nick: Well, we have to assume she’s headed this way. And the fact that this woman would commit mass murder for her own selfish ends makes me sick.

Adam: Yeah, I knew that she was dangerous, but man, that is horrific.

Nick: How’s mom?

[ Victor sighs ]

Victor: I told her to stay at the ranch and do work from there.

Nick: I mean, it’s a good plan if she’ll stick to it. We both know mom doesn’t like to feel like she’s trapped.

Victor: I know.

Lauren: Good morning.

Nikki: Oh!

Lauren: Your housekeeper said I could come on back.

Nikki: Lauren! I’m so glad you’re here. Uh, there’s coffee, or if you would prefer something else I–

Lauren: No, no. I’m fine.

Nikki: Well, I am just so grateful that you could step in and help me run newman media. I know how busy you are with ben morris.

Lauren: Oh, well, I’m happy to do it. I know I can’t be a sponsor to you like jack, but I’m happy to be part of your support team. And I love a new challenge. Are you kidding? Not many people can say they work with newman and jabot at the same time.

Nikki: Oh, yes, that’s, uh, that’s true.

Lauren: All right. So, why don’t you bring me up to speed on the projects that audra was working on before she left.

Nikki: Oh, um… well, audra was, uh, focusing on finding new ways for mainstream companies to engage with their customers.

Lauren: Mainstream meaning outside entities or divisions of newman?

Nikki: Um, I– I– I’m- I’m a little hazy on that. I– I’ll get back to you.

Lauren: I can see you’re having a rough morning.

[ Nikki sighs ]

Nikki: Yeah, I guess I am.

Lauren: Do you want to talk about it? Do you want to call jack? I was with him when you texted him to distract victor. I know that you’re struggling. How can I help? Sometimes, the lows of bipolar depression That h

Nikki: Lauren, forgive me.

Nikki: Lauren, forgive me. I appreciate your friendship so much. I– I don’t want to fall apart in front of you.

Lauren: Nikki, you’re going through so much. No apology necessary.

Nikki: Actually, it’s– it’s not even the urge to drink that has me so frazzled. It’s finding out that jordan has escaped, and she’s on the loose.

Lauren: What? There’s proof?

Nikki: Victor just heard. She survived the fire, which was deliberately set, by the way. And now she is nowhere to be found.

Lauren: Well, if that psychopath knows what’s good for her, she will disappear forever.

Nikki: Well, I’m afraid that’s not going to be the case.

Lauren: The way you say that, I– she’s already been calling me, trying to scare me… and she’s doing a damn good job of it.

Lauren: Okay, you don’t give her the power. You are stronger than that.

Nikki: Oh, god, you don’t know how much I’m starting to hate that word.

Lauren: Look, I understand how big and ugly this is. I went through this many times with sheila. They draw their strength on your fear. They wanna control your actions and your emotions by presenting this constant threat. That is how they break you down. That is how they win.

Nikki: You’re right. I can’t let her intimidate me. I won’t give her the satisfaction.

Lauren: Uh, what are you doing?

Nikki: I am looking for her last call. Unfortunately, victor’s security team wasn’t able to trace the number, but I know that it was jordan. She played that music she always plays, a song that I used to strip to.

Lauren: Oh, wow.

Nikki: Jordan thought hearing it would throw me off balance. She doesn’t know me well enough to know that I have no regrets about that time. Now I can return the favor. Hello, jordan. I know you’re there. I just called to let you know that you can’t beat my family. So you can keep playing your little games, play that song, which doesn’t embarrass me in the least, by the way. I think of it as a fight song, an anthem, shall we say. Something that we can play to celebrate your final downfall. Yeah, because it’s coming. You have no allies. Claire has seen the truth about her sick, demented aunt. Oh, you have nothing to say to me? I’m not really surprised. Because in addition to you being insane… you are weak. You’re a coward. And I hope you do try to come and get me right here at the ranch. I hope you break through security, get in this house. Yes, I do. Go ahead. Do it. Give me a chance to cross a line.

Victor: What are you thinking, son?

Nick: I’m thinking I don’t like this. We need some solid plan, something that will eliminate jordan as a threat. I absolutely hate it that this is hanging over our heads. It’s time to act.

Victor: I couldn’t agree more.

Adam: Is there any way to set a trap for her?

Victor: You know, interestingly enough, it’s what nikki suggested. But I will not allow her to use herself as bait.

Nick: Then what are the options? You gonna put guards on her 24/7, trap her inside her own home? She’s gonna flip out, dad.

Adam: From everything that you’ve told me, jordan hates you as much as she hates anyone else.

Victor: I know she does. I’m going to use that to my advantage.

Nick: What the hell does that mean?

Victor: I can’t talk about it until the pieces are in place.

Nick: That is not reassuring, dad.

Victor: Son, rest assured that I will do everything in my power to get rid of that woman.

Adam: Look, if there’s anything that I can do to help, you count me in.

Victor: I appreciate that, son.

Adam: Clearly, you plan to use yourself as some kind of bait, and I don’t support that. But I can understand why you feel the need to do it. So, like adam, you can count on me, too, for whatever you need.

Victor: I appreciate that from both of you. But… this is a battle I have to fight all on my own. I would’ve called yesterday.

Announcer: The young and

the restless will continue.

Chloe: Is there anyone in la that you can reach out to? We can travel.

Sally: Not an option.

Chloe: Burned too many bridges.

Sally: Mm-hmm. What about new york? I mean, it’s been a while, but…

Chloe: Years.

Sally: This is so frustrating. I mean, we’ve done good work. I know we have, and– and the feedback from our clients has been super positive.

Chloe: Yeah, but it hasn’t translated into new work. I mean, we get a nice project, and then it’s just one and done.

Sally: Okay, well, once our photography gets done, we can post it all over creation. We’ll get some social media hits, we could get some features on some design sites. Those bring in clients.

Chloe: Sometimes.

Sally: Yeah, I don’t know. Maybe… maybe it’s too late.

Chloe: No, I just feel like we’re tying ourselves up in knots for no reason. This happens to startups. It’s time to ask the investor for another infusion.

Sally: Go back to nick… hat in hand and ask him for another loan?

Chloe: I mean…

Sally: Absolutely not.

Adam: Well, why don’t you just go ahead and say it?

Nick: What?

Adam: You wish I kept my mouth shut, and I just stayed out of it since I was never on jordan’s hit list.

Nick: What I wish, adam, is that you hadn’t sounded so supportive of dad’s plan without us hearing what it was first. We don’t know what he’s planning. We don’t know how dangerous it is.

Adam: Look, there is nothing that we can do or say that’s going to rein him in. Dad is going to stop jordan if it’s the last thing that he does. It’s a figure of speech. As long as we’re on board, we can help keep him safe.

Nick: Yeah, that’s the only reason I went along with it. Let’s just hope he doesn’t take too many unnecessary risks.

Adam: Well, about all we can do now is wait for dad to finalize his plan and let us in on it if we’re lucky.

Nick: Yeah. Before dad walked in, you said you wanted to talk to me about something. What was it?

Adam: There’s something that, uh… I need to discuss with you before I run it by dad. It’s about sally.

Nick: Adam, if… you’re about to tell me that you’re planning to marry her, there’s no need for that. It doesn’t concern me.

Lauren: Look at you. That was amazing. Putting the fear of god into that monster for a change.

Nikki: Yeah, it felt pretty good. But I doubt anything I said will deter her.

Lauren: Oh, don’t be so sure. You were ferocious. And after what I just witnessed, I don’t envy anyone who would want to cross you or your family.

Victoria: You know, it made me so happy earlier hearing you talk about mythology, knowing that you read the book that I gave you and that it actually meant something to you.

Claire: And you were right about the “newman angle,” victor as zeus, the convoluted family tree, all the nonstop intrigue and infighting.

Victoria: The parallels are very clear.

Claire: Does that make you hena?

Victoria: I have been known to hurl a thunderbolt or two.

[ Claire chuckles ]

Claire: I love your visits. I really look forward to them.

[ Victoria sighs ]

Victoria: Me too. You know, the way I see it… you and I are going through a similar process. Just trying to figure out who we are and what kind of people we want to be. And what we should value, you know, and what we can– we can let fall away. And until I have those answers, there’s nothing that I would rather be focused on than you.

Victor: Hi. Am I interrupting?

Claire: Mr. Newman, no. Hi, come in.

Victoria: Hi, dad. I didn’t expect to see you here.

Victor: I just would like a few moments alone with claire.

Victoria: Um, why is that?

Victor: I just would like to ask her some questions about jordan.

Victoria: Oh, um, you know, I’m not sure if that’s really such a good idea, dad.

Victor: Why not?

Victoria: Well, we were just talking about how we want to put that woman out of our heads for good.

Claire: It’s okay. I have a feeling I know why you’re here. Jordan’s escaped, hasn’t she?

Victor: Um, claire, I was just hoping if you could help us with some clues about jordan’s behavior so we can catch her again, you know? If your moderate to severe crohn’s disease

Claire: I have no idea what jordan might do or where she might go.

Victor: You know that this morning my team got info from the prison. Apparently the fire was arson.

Claire: Then jordan set it. I guarantee you. She probably figured she’d be presumed dead.

Victor: Well, in that case, she’s sorely mistaken. Because the bodies were identified through means of dna. She wasn’t one of the victims. She survived. So she’s a hunted woman again.

Victoria: Okay, but listen to me. There’s a security team in place to keep jordan away from you. So just please don’t give her another thought.

Claire: I think it’s sweet that you’re trying to protect me, but I can handle this conversation. I’m not afraid of jordan, like I told you and cole. And I have no desire to protect her.

Victor: That’s good to know.

Claire: And she knows that. She called me a few days ago and I shut her down immediately.

Victoria: She called you? Here?

Victor: How was that phone call allowed to go through?

Claire: I presume she smuggled in a cell phone so that the prison name and telephone number wouldn’t show up on the caller id. And then she lied to the nurse who brought me the phone saying that she was you.

Victoria: Of course she did.

Victor: Why is this the first time we’re hearing about this?

Claire: I probably should have told you about it sooner. I wasn’t trying to withhold information. I just… I put it out of my mind.

Victoria: What do you mean?

Claire: Well, I told jordan that she could never manipulate me ever again, that I never wanted her to contact me again, and that I wished she was dead. I was furious. She had tricked me. And back in oregon, I had told her that I never wanted to hear from her again, but she found a way to go against my wishes. So I hung up on her. And then when I spoke to my therapist about it, I just– I just shut it out of my mind. And I understand how all of this must sound, but that’s why I didn’t tell you about it sooner.

Victoria: That’s okay. We understand. Don’t we, dad?

Victor: Yes.

Claire: And, mr. Newman, I promise you, if anything else comes to mind, I will tell you right away. I want to help protect the family. Especially nikki. I think about her all the time, and I worry about her and how she’s doing.

Victor: You know, claire, you know that you’re part of the family now. So why don’t you call me victor?

Victoria: That is so sweet of you, dad. Thank you.

Claire: I just wish there was more I could do to help.

Victor: In fact, there is something that you can do.

Claire: Say the word.

Victor: I have a feeling that jordan will call you again.

Claire: Even after how mean I was?

Victor: I bet you she can’t help herself. But if she does, will you kindly give her a message?

Victoria: No, no, no, dad. This is a really bad idea.

Victor: Yes, yes, yes.

Claire: What do you want me to say?

Victor: Kindly tell her that I’m willing to make amends for all the hurt that I’ve caused her sister eve.

Adam: Look, we’re keeping things strictly professional, right? I mean, other than what I’m freaking out about connor, and I need your advice.

Nick: So this concerns sally’s business?

Adam: You funded her venture, and… she has too much pride to admit that things aren’t going well.

> Nick: In what sense?

Adam: Well, in the beginning, there was a flurry of activity and design gigs. But since those projects have wrapped up, it’s been pretty slow.

Nick: That’s the way a lot of new companies are, adam. They spike out of the gate, and eventually things level off.

Adam: Nick, I’ve seen the projections. She’s going to need a lot of cash to keep things afloat.

Nick: If sally needs more capital, all she has to do is come and ask me herself.

Adam: Except she won’T. Besides, my idea isn’t about funneling more cash her way. It’s bigger than that.

Nick: I’m listening.

Adam: At one point, dad offered to create a design division under newman for sally to run, and then he pulled the rug out from under her.

Nick: Yeah, that was, uh, unfortunate.

Adam: No, no, it was rotten. She walked away from a contract with chancellor winters to take the opportunity here at newman, and then he reneged. It was totally unfair. I’m going to ask him to revisit that and actually follow through this time. And she and chloe can fold in under the newman umbrella.

Sally: Forget it, chloe. I’m not going back to nick for more money.

Chloe: Okay, fine.

Sally: I’m surprised that you would even bring it up, honestly. I mean, it’s just wrong on so many levels.

Chloe: Okay, but you and your idiotic return back to adam. That wasn’t wrong. Okay. [ Laughs ] You know what? I don’t want to argue with you about that again. So, um, you know, I’m just not even going to go there.

Sally: Good. Because things with adam are actually going pretty well. So maybe you could just be happy for me as my friend.

Chloe: Yay. But there is one more option to bolster the company we haven’t discussed.

Sally: Which is…

Chloe: Taking on a new partner.

Upbeat music

Sally: A new partner?

Chloe: Someone established with a wider reach and deep pockets. That might be exactly what we need to get over this hump.

Sally: But we would lose control.

Chloe: Okay. Losing some control versus losing the whole company? Is that so bad?

Sally: It’s just– it’s just not what I envisioned. Put it that way.

Chloe: Look, I don’t know what the answer is, but I do know I don’t want to give up on this.

Sally: Well, me either. So let’s just try harder.

Chloe: How?

Sally: I don’t know. We can go to some design publications and ask them for press. We could throw a party. We could design a room for charity house. Offer a coupon.

Chloe: What?

Sally: Okay, no. Not that last one. Look, whatever it takes to get people interested in our services, okay? Because I’m not going back to nick and I refuse to admit defeat.

Nick: Does sally know you’re going to propose this?

Adam: I wanted to know that I had victor’s blessing and that you were amenable before I got her hopes up.

Nick: Smart. Because I highly doubt dad is going to resurrect it.

Adam: Well, that is where you come in. I’m going to need your help to sell this idea to him.

Claire: Why would you try to make amends with jordan? There’s nothing that you could possibly say that would ever make her hate you and your family any less.

Victor: I understand. But do me a favor, just pass it along if you can. If you can’t, I understand. Okay? Meanwhile, thank you for listening to me. Nice to see you again.

Claire: Thanks for visiting.

Victor: All right.

Victoria: Dad. Whatever scheme you have going right now, you cannot use claire as a go-between. I’m not going to allow it. The last thing she needs is more exposure to jordan.

Victor: Sweetheart, listen to me. Your mother is on a binge right now. She’s drinking herself into oblivion, all right? Why? Because that jordan woman is torturing her and will continue to do so. She is our only conduit here, all right?

Victoria: My daughter is a victim, too. Something you seem to keep forgetting.

Victor: I’m merely asking her to pass along a message. That’s all.

Victoria: Dad, even talking to jordan again could cause a setback for her.

Victor: Sweetheart, I’m concerned about your mother, not her. Do you understand? End of discussion.

Claire: You’re upset with me.

Victoria: No.

Claire: And with victor.

Victoria: I just, I wish he hadn’t put you in the middle.

Claire: I’m okay with it. Really, I swear. I doubt jordan’s going to call again, but anything’s possible.

Victoria: This is a terrible idea.

Claire: Actually, I think it makes sense. I– I think he’s setting a trap. It’s a reverse of what jordan did to nikki. Victor doesn’t actually want to make amends. He’s just setting himself up as bait. And if there’s anything I can do to help him catch her and put her away again, then I am more than happy to talk to her one last time. If it means putting an end to this horror show once and for all.

Lauren: Okay, that gives me a good idea of audra’s workload. Although I still have a lot to learn about the media business.

Nikki: Oh, you’ll pick it up fast.

[ Phone rings ] It’s her.

Lauren: Right, you have already said what you need to say to her. There is no reason to pick up that call. And there is no reason to put yourself through what she has planned for you.
