Billy expected to get blamed for Katie’s situation, but Victoria said it was no one’s fault. Victoria apologized for being too harsh on Billy over the last few months. She realized she’d been that way because she’d thought they’d grow old together and felt cheated that it wouldn’t happen. She was grateful he gave her the kids and was helping her raise them.

Phyllis told Abby she had a plan to make more money at The Grand Phoenix. Chance heard Adam had been fired, so he’d been calling to check on him. Abby told Chance that Adam wasn’t the person Chance knew in Vegas. Chance decided to stop pushing and let Adam reach out to him. Victor approved of Chelsea encouraging Adam to forget the past and move forward. Rey was annoyed when Adam came to visit Sharon, but he left them alone together. Adam revealed that he knew Sharon had cancer, and he apologized for dumping his problems on her. Sharon was okay with Adam knowing, and she wanted to help him. Sharon disagreed with Chelsea’s belief that Adam should let the past stay buried. She agreed to counsel Adam. Adam didn’t want Chelsea to know he was getting therapy to remember. Due to ethical issues and their shared history, Sharon said she’d only treat Adam if he was okay with telling Chelsea and Rey that he and Sharon were talking. However, she promised anything said during the meetings was confidential.

Adam told Chelsea that Sharon was going to help him recover his memory. Chelsea thought that was huge mistake. Nick was upset when Rey told him that Adam went back to Sharon’s house. Rey wasn’t jealous, but he was concerned Sharon would focus on Adam when she should be focused on herself. Sharon started to tell Rey what happened with Adam. Victoria asked Jack to help her with some sort of Newman related business. He was excited by her plan, and he agreed.

Chelsea confronted Victor about saying Adam killed AJ. Victor said it was true, and he revealed that the farm’s caretaker could corroborate the story. Victor was glad when Chelsea said she’d be there for Adam, no matter what. Adam was obsessed with clearing his name, so he called the caretaker and invited him to Genoa City. Summer took it in stride when she found out her parents were back together. She didn’t think things would work out, but she decided to live and let live. Nick decided to take the same approach regarding Summer and Kyle’s relationship. Abby turned down Nick’s offer to give her a new hotel if she abandoned construction across the street from Phyllis’s hotel. She did not think Phyllis should be rewarded for the underhanded things she did to get control of The Grand Phoenix. Nate surprised Amanda with a visit, but she was too busy with work to spend much time with him.

Devon started a business scholarship in Neil’s name. Devon and Elena went on a date, which was cut short when Nate got overwhelmed at the clinic. Elena told Nate he and Devon would make good parents. Nate wasn’t ready to be a father. Elena said she and Devon weren’t planning to have children yet either. Nate promised to handle the rest of the patients alone, so Elena could to back to her date. Devon was happy when Elena returned. Phyllis convinced Amanda to take a break and go see Nate. Nate was pleasantly surprised. The dinosaur bones Phyllis buried at the construction site were found, and all work was halted. Nick and Phyllis told each other about their plans to get Abby to stop building the hotel. Phyllis was touched by what Nick did for her, but she told him this was between her and Abby. Chance told Abby he supported her no matter what. Recap written by Christine

It was the anniversary of the re-dedication of Chancellor Park, so Lily and Billy decided to interview the citizens of Genoa City about Katherine for Chancellor Communications. The characters reminisced about Katherine and flashed back to recent significant events in their lives. Victoria said being successful at Newman came with drama. Nikki declined to comment when Lily asked for her thoughts on Victoria becoming the Newman CEO. Nikki warned Victor that she thought Billy was planning an exposé on the Newmans. Victor ordered Billy not to slander his family. Billy countered that it wasn’t slander if it was true. Adam seemed troubled about Victor saying that Adam killed AJ. Billy asked Adam why he’d been fired from Newman. Adam accused Billy of spreading poison through the town. Billy predicted that Adam would end up alone. Mariah thought about the time Sharon asked her to act as her health care proxy. Lily said her kids got her through her cancer treatments, and she thought Mariah and her siblings would do the same for Sharon.

Rey was there for Sharon ahead of her upcoming surgery. Nick talked with Lily about how much he admired Sharon’s strength. Devon recalled apologizing to Amanda for treating her unfairly and admitted he did it because she looked like Hilary. Amanda told Lily she was happy to be building a life in Genoa City, and she was excited about the new relationship with Nate. Billy told Lily that he wanted to find out what happened with the transfer of power at Newman. Lily was wary because he’d promised not to use Chancellor Communications to carry out a vendetta against the Newmans. He still wanted to pursue it, and he promised not to screw it up. Jack was affected by Dina’s declining health. He also predicted that some unlikely and explosive things would happen in Genoa City. Devon and Elena had a relaxing evening, and he said he was grateful she was in his life.

Y&R Character Description – Lily Winters

Lily Winters

Lily

Played By Christel Adnana Khalil
Written By Darlene

on April 21, 2013

When Drucilla Winters gave birth to Lily, she let her husband, Neil, believe he was the father.  Neil’s brother, Malcolm Winters took advantage of Drucilla while she was under the influence.  She thought she was making love to Neil.  She became pregnant and Neil never questioned whether or not he was Lily’s father.  Malcolm and Drucilla decided to keep her true paternity a secret.  The marriage fell apart anyway and Drucilla took her young daughter to Paris.

Several years later, Drucilla sent Lily back to Genoa City, where Neil had become an alcoholic.  At first, Lily hated Genoa City until she met a kindred spirit, Colleen Carlton.  The two girls became very close and Neil cleaned up his act, so Lily adjusted to life in America.

As a teen, Lily tried online dating and met Kevin Fisher.  Kevin was a possessive boyfriend and treated Lily badly.  When Colleen tried to warn Lily, Kevin started a fire at Gina’s restaurant intending to kill Colleen, who was inside.  Kevin was Lily’s first lover and she contracted Chlamydia.

Lily and Kevin’s best friend, Daniel Romalotti fell in love.  They eloped after Lily found out that Malcolm was her biological father.  On the paperwork, she listed Malcolm as her father.  Later, she confronted Drucilla and Neil overheard the truth.  Lily assured him that he would always be her dad, but the relationship between Neil and Malcolm never recovered.  The marriage between Daniel and Lily also dissolved once Lily realized she couldn’t trust Daniel and his porn addiction.

Lily caught the eye of local bartender, Cane Ashby.  Neil liked Cane as an employee, but he didn’t approve of a relationship between his little girl and a much older man.  Lily and Cane fought their attraction for each other for awhile but they ultimately gave in.

Lily and Cane broke up briefly because it was thought that he was the father of Chloe Mitchell’s baby, Cordelia.  Billy came forward as the father and Chloe admitted that she and Cane had never actually had sex, she had drugged him and told him they had sex.  Lily and Cane reconciled and they were married.

Cane had done some lying of his own.  He had everyone believing he was the real Chancellor heir, Phillip Chancellor, III.  The real Phillip showed up and the whole truth was uncovered.  Lily forgave Cane for this lie.  He continued to lie throughout their marriage and she continued to forgive him, even after he allowed her to believe he was killed and he was haunting her.

Lily won a war against cancer, but was unable to conceive.  Mackenzie Browning, granddaughter of Katherine Chancellor, agreed to be a surrogate.  She gave birth to twins Matilda (Matty) and Charlie.

Even though Lily has given him no reason to doubt her loyalty to him, Cane is jealous and possessive.  He insists Lily is too kind-hearted to see peoples’ true intentions.

Lily is, in fact, a very loyal wife and friend.  She loves her children very much as well as her job and she does a good job of juggling the two.  While she does tend to see only the good in people, she is a smart and savvy woman who can have it all in spite of all the tragedy she’s endured.

Y&R Character Description – Esther Valentine

Esther Valentine

Esther

Esther Valentine has been a loyal housekeeper and friend to Katherine Chancellor for many years.  For a short time, Esther worked for Nina after being lured away with promises of a better dress code and equal treatment.  Esther soon found out that working for Katherine wasn’t as bad as she thought, and she returned to the Chancellor estate.

Tired of being lonely, Esther had a one-night stand with Tiny and became pregnant.  She named the baby Kate and asked Katherine to be Kate’s godmother.  As a child, Kate was sent off to school.

Again having the need for male companionship, Esther began dating Norman Peterson.  She pretended to be the lady of the Chancellor estate.  Not wanting to embarrass Esther, Katherine and her husband Rex played along.  Rex caught Norman trying to steal from Katherine and confronted him, who was actually an ex-con.  Rex was shot in the process.

Proving that Esther is quick to trust and has bad luck with men, she, once again, became involved with a man who only wanted to get his hands on the Chancellor fortune.  Katherine was kidnapped and presumed dead, leaving Esther financially secure.  Esther and Roger were married, but he turned out to be married to someone else.  Katherine was reunited with her family.

When the time came for the folks at the Chancellor estate to meet Cane’s new bride-to-be, Esther was surprised to see it was her daughter, Kate, who was now going by the name Chloe.  Chloe had a daughter she named Cordelia.

Realizing Esther’s worth, Katherine promoted her from housekeeper to personal assistant, leaving Esther plenty of time to spend with her granddaughter.

Y&R Character Description – Nick Newman

Nicholas Newman

Nick

Nicholas Newman
Played By Josh Morrow
Written By Darlene

on May 22, 2013

Nicholas “Nick” Newman spent most of his life trying to make his father, business mogul Victor Newman, proud; but it always seemed that Victor held the bar higher for his son than his daughters, Victoria and Abby.  Nick realized that he would never make Victor proud and he no longer cared.  He ventured out on his own and discovered his own passion, which had nothing to do with business.  Nick is the owner of Genoa City’s newest nightclub, “The Underground.”

Nick is not only flaky in his professional life but also in matters of the heart.  He married his first love, Sharon, but strayed more than once.  When he found himself expecting a child with his mistress, Phyllis Summers, he divorced Sharon and married Phyllis.  He cheated on Phyllis with Sharon, and they divorced.  He planned to marry Sharon again, but she chose his brother, Adam.  Nick went back to Phyllis but decided he didn’t want to play her games, so he left her and hooked up with her sister, Avery.  It seems Nick may not have inherited his father’s head for business but they both have wandering hearts.

Nick would do anything to protect his family.  In spite of all the hearts he breaks, he feels the need to protect the women in his life, not the least of which is Summer, the child he conceived out of wedlock with Phyllis.  Summer, who became a beautiful young woman, is prone to mischief and makes foolish decisions in spite of warnings from family and friends.  This could be because Nick refuses to let her grow up.

Though Nick can be callous and hypocritical at times, he has a way of making people love him and forget all the horrible things he’s done.  After all, compared to his brother, Adam, in many ways Nick is a saint.
