“Batwoman – The Complete First Season” Review by Suzanne 5/20/20

This is a great comic book show, and a good entry into the “Arrowverse” (or whatever they’re calling the superhero shows on The CW now). I’ve enjoyed watching every episode each week. They do a great job with balancing the action and the character development, with a little bit of humor. At first, I tried to compare it with “Gotham,” but it’s a very different show. However, it does have certain qualities that are similar to that show.  It can be very twisted, bizarre and wacky at times (particularly the villains).

The season ending with some shockers – especially the reveal of Bruce Wayne’s lookalike. After the season ended, it was revealed that star Ruby Rose would not be returning as Kate Kane. This is a terrible disappointment because she did such a great job in the role.  She will definitely be missed. I hope that the person that replaces her as Batwoman (not as Kate Kane) will be just as good. I have to wonder how this will affect the rest of the show, which was built around Kate’s father, sister, enemies, girlfriends, etc.

The DVD is just as good as the series. I’m  reviewing the Blu-ray here.  There is a lack of extras, however. Perhaps that’s because of the pandemic? I don’t know. The only features are “The Best of DC TV’s Comic-Con Panels San Diego 2019” and deleted scenes. That sure isn’t enough. I hope that future versions (perhaps the complete set) will have a lot more than that.

Primetime DVD Review: “NCIS: The Seventeenth Season”

DVD Review!

NCIS: The Seventeenth Season DVD cover

“NCIS: The Seventeenth Season” Review by Suzanne 8/8/20

There’s a reason that NCIS is always at the top of the broadcast ratings chart.  It has solid stories and interesting characters.  The cast changes sometimes, but they always have other fun or interesting people to fill in their places.  Of course, Tony and Abby are greatly missed by the fans. Ziva is, too, but we see her a few times this season. It’s great to have her back. I wish Ducky wasn’t retired, but we still see him occasionally. Mark Harmon is getting up there, but he’s still a fine actor.

It’s the 17th season, but in some ways it seems like this show has been on for 25 years. I can barely remember before it started.  It’s a reliable series that shows us great drama as well as laughs and mystery.  You really can’t go wrong watching any episode of the show.  I used to watch it regularly, but I was watching too many shows, which made it hard to keep up, so I stopped watching all the NCIS series (among others).  It doesn’t matter, though, because you can start watching again any time and not feel like you missed anything. Maria Bello (Jack) and Wilmer Valderrama (Nick) are fine recent additions.   I’m glad that they added some more people of color, like Walderrama and Diona Reasonover (Kacie).  NCIS always changes with the times and keeps up on what’s new in the world – even though it’s audience is most likely to be seniors over 50, they do get a fair share of people 18-34 watching.

I really like the teasing romance between Gibbs and Jack. I hope they carry that further.  His friendship with the neighbor kid was also very heartwarming.  Nick and Eleanor (Emily Wickersham) also have a fun will-they-or-won’t-they kind of friendship. There was a lot of great action this season, too, of course.  You can easily watch this without having to “catch up” on previous seasons.

The extras are good. They have two episode-specific features and two main ones.  “Other Times. Other Lives” is about the episode “Epherema” in which they go through an old man’s letters and other things to learn the origin of a coin. The actors play the parts of the man and others in the 70’s, which is fun. It’s great to see them as other characters, and it’s clear they had fun with it.  “Hallowed Ground: The Arizona” is about the last episode of the season, “The Arizona.”  Christopher Lloyd plays an eccentric old guy who steals a couple’s purple heart (from their late daughter).  He wants to be buried among the dead at the Pearl Harbor monument. One of the things  that makes this episode interesting is how Gibbs makes him face what happened way back then. It wasn’t planned to be the series’ last episode of the season, but it worked out to be, due to the coronavirus.  There is a feature about the making of the season, and another one about Ziva’s return.  Make sure you watch the episodes first because the features will have spoilers.

This would make a great gift for anyone! Put it on your holiday gift list.

Ridge and Brooke are very happy to be back together and working on their problems. He pledges to be there waiting for her when she comes back from her trip to visit Bridget. She invites him to come with her, but he has to be there for Steffy and the company. They plan to take a week or more off when she gets back, to celebrate. Later, Donna gives Brooke a toy truck to give to Logan. Donna can tell that Brooke’s mind is elsewhere, so Brooke tells her that Ridge has forgiven her. Donna is delighted to hear it.

Shaun phones Quinn. They chat about Shauna being back in L.A. Quinn invites her over, in part so that she can “accidentally” bump into Ridge. Eric comes home while they’re chatting on the phone, so Quinn explains that she was talking to Shauna. Eric thinks that Brooke and Ridge will get back together. Quinn doesn’t think so, and they discuss it. Ridge comes home and informs him that he’s moving back in with Brooke. Eric is happy and tells Quinn “I told you so.” Quinn has an attitude like she’s keeping a delicious secret. Shauna arrives and tells them that she had to return to her husband. She explains that she and Ridge were married the night that he was there with her in Vegas. She promises to be a loving and faithful wife to him, “until death do us part.”

Steffy and her new doctor, Finn, flirt with each other. He dropped some papers by her place. He jokes that he always wanted to be a country doctor that drops by people’s houses. He admits that he Googled her, and he’s very impressed with her. She demurs, saying that he’s the one saving lives. She makes a snack for Kelly while they chat. He takes a phone call, so she notices that he referred to himself as “Finn.” She chats about being a single parent, like it’s no big deal. It’s clear that he admires her even more. When he asks about Kelly’s father, she mentions Liam. He recognizes Liam from the big picture hanging on her wall, since he met him at the hospital. He also tells her that he found out that this wasn’t her first motorcycle crash, so he advises her not to ride it any more. As he leaves, he tells her to let him know if she needs anything else. He also asks if it’s okay to check on her sometimes, since she’s on his way home. She likes the idea. After he leaves, she has severe pain. She looks at the clock and realizes that it’s time to take more pain medication.

Steffy is on the phone with Amelia, who’s running late. Steffy is obviously in great pain. She sits down and considers whether she should take more pain meds or not. Ridge calls to see how she’s doing. She tries to downplay how she is, but he can tell that she’s not being honest. He once again suggests she make sure to take her pain pills. He offers to come over there until Amelia gets there, but she tells him that the traffic is terrible. Dr. Finnegan phones to see how she’s doing. He asks if she’s followed up with her PCP, so she replies that she has an appointment later this week. He asks about her pain and reminds her that if she doesn’t take the pills on a regular schedule, then healing will take longer. Thomas drops by, bringing flowers and candy from his friend Vinnie. Thomas thinks that Vinnie might have a crush on her. Steffy confides that she doesn’t even remember the accident. She takes her pain medication, noting that she’s almost out. She’d hoped she wouldn’t need them any more before she needed to get a refill. Later, Thomas is on the phone – something about work. She tells him to go ahead and that her pain meds are kicking in. He tells her to call him if she needs anything. Dr. Finnegan drops by to bring her paperwork from the hospital. He’s embarrassed because his assistant was supposed to call Steffy and let her know. She was on a conference call and had her phone muted. He lives nearby, so he figured he could just bring them by. She tells him that it’s OK and that she’s getting better and better every day.

Flo and Wyatt are surprised to see Shauna show up. Shauna just wanted to check on Flo because of what has happened. She calls Wyatt and Flo “lovebirds” and Flo makes a joke about their having lots of sex. They catch up about what happened with Sally. Wyatt has to leave for work but tells them that they need to go out later to celebrate. Flo wonders if her mom is there for Ridge. Shauna tells her that Ridge gave her a ride home on his private jet, and then she took him on a tour of Vegas. Flo thinks there’s something more going on that Shauna isn’t telling her. Shauna just tells her that Ridge needed to take his mind off his problems, so she was there to help him do that. She couldn’t believe the crowds that he attracted. Shauna is disturbed to hear that Ridge spent the night at Shauna’s place. She asks if they slept together. Shauna brushes her questions off, saying that Las Vegas is her past. L.A. is her future. Meanwhile, Ridge is at Forrester, working, but he keeps having flashes of memory to what happened in Vegas. Brooke drops by and tells him that she’s leaving for a few days to go visit Bridget and Logan. She wants to visit with her daughter, who helped her when they were separated. She tells Ridge that she intends to work through their issues when she returns. She hopes they can be stronger than ever. Brooke goes on and on about their problems. When she mentions Shauna, Ridge has some more memories about being there in Vegas with her. Ridge talks about how he felt, seeing her kissing Bill. His faith in her was shattered. Daytime Soap Opera Short Recaps

Recap written by Suzanne

Steffy walks around her place, admiring the decorations that Hope and Liam put up for her homecoming, talking to Ridge. She moves and cries out in pain, so he urges her to take her medication. She claims that she’s fine. Thomas, now sporting a beard, drops by with flowers for her. He looks shaken up by what happened to her. Ridge leaves them alone to chat. Thomas tells his sister how much he loves her and was worried about her. Things seem to be good between them now and she thanks him for visiting. She asks how he’s doing. He admits that it’s been rough not seeing Douglad, but he knows that Hope and Liam are taking good care of him for now. He’s been in regular contact with Taylor, too. He thanks Ridge for all of his support as well. Ridge once again suggests to Steffy that she should take her pills, before he leaves. Thomas can tell that Steffy is in a lot more pain than she let on. Steffy tells him that the beard looks good. Thomas tells her that he’s been driving up and down the coast, staying here and there, but he stays close so he can visit Douglas. Steffy has another twinge of pain, so Thomas points out that she was in a serious accident. She should accept help and take medication. Later, Steffy is alone when she hears Kelly cry over the baby monitor. She takes some pain medication.  At Forrester, Donna and Brooke discuss Steffy’s accident. Donna wonders if this brought her and Ridge closer together, but Brooke says that it didn’t because Bill was there to admit that he hit Steffy with his car. Brooke really wants to get things back to normal with Ridge. Even though there is still distance between her and Ridge, she plans to keep trying with him. Ridge drops by, so they ask about Steffy. Ridge is just worried about her being in pain and not wanting to take her medication. Donna leaves them alone. Ridge tells Brooke that Thomas stopped by. Brooke lists all of the things that came between them, and she admits that she was partly responsible. He admits that, too. She says that she doesn’t want him to have any more drunken nights with Shauna, or anyone. As she says that, Ridge remembers some of his time kissing Shauna. Brooke concludes that they need to vow never to let anyone come between them ever again.

Back at the beach house, Wyatt and Flo, sitting on the couch, chat about dinner and decide to go back to having sex, like they were planning to do before Katie dropped by. They chat for a second about Katie and Sally. He still can’t believe what Sally did. They also decide not to talk about Sally any more. They have sex on the couch. He says that he won’t ever let her out of his sight again. Katie drops by Sally’s place to confront her. Sally admits what she did and feels very sorry. She deserves whatever Katie says to her. She admits that she did it because she couldn’t stand to lose Wyatt again to Flo. Katie asks if it was all planned, but Sally informs her that when she ran into her at the hospital, that was all by accident. She really was worried about her health at that point because of the symptoms she was having. After seeing how Katie cared about her, she realized she could get Wyatt to care for her, too. Katie feels like an idiot after being used by Sally. She yells at Sally for what she did, although she’s relieved that she’s not dying. Katie lays out all of the things she did for her and how she was manipulated. She says sarcastically that she hopes Sally is proud of herself. Sally says forlornly that she’s not proud at all — she’s deeply ashamed. She tells Katie how great of a friend she was and how badly she treated her. She tells her how sorry she is and hopes that one day she can forgive her. Katie suggests that she just take some time and get her life back on track. She advises her to first let go of her obsession with Wyatt.

Y&R Character Description – Lily Winters

Lily Winters

Lily

Played By Christel Adnana Khalil
Written By Darlene

on April 21, 2013

When Drucilla Winters gave birth to Lily, she let her husband, Neil, believe he was the father.  Neil’s brother, Malcolm Winters took advantage of Drucilla while she was under the influence.  She thought she was making love to Neil.  She became pregnant and Neil never questioned whether or not he was Lily’s father.  Malcolm and Drucilla decided to keep her true paternity a secret.  The marriage fell apart anyway and Drucilla took her young daughter to Paris.

Several years later, Drucilla sent Lily back to Genoa City, where Neil had become an alcoholic.  At first, Lily hated Genoa City until she met a kindred spirit, Colleen Carlton.  The two girls became very close and Neil cleaned up his act, so Lily adjusted to life in America.

As a teen, Lily tried online dating and met Kevin Fisher.  Kevin was a possessive boyfriend and treated Lily badly.  When Colleen tried to warn Lily, Kevin started a fire at Gina’s restaurant intending to kill Colleen, who was inside.  Kevin was Lily’s first lover and she contracted Chlamydia.

Lily and Kevin’s best friend, Daniel Romalotti fell in love.  They eloped after Lily found out that Malcolm was her biological father.  On the paperwork, she listed Malcolm as her father.  Later, she confronted Drucilla and Neil overheard the truth.  Lily assured him that he would always be her dad, but the relationship between Neil and Malcolm never recovered.  The marriage between Daniel and Lily also dissolved once Lily realized she couldn’t trust Daniel and his porn addiction.

Lily caught the eye of local bartender, Cane Ashby.  Neil liked Cane as an employee, but he didn’t approve of a relationship between his little girl and a much older man.  Lily and Cane fought their attraction for each other for awhile but they ultimately gave in.

Lily and Cane broke up briefly because it was thought that he was the father of Chloe Mitchell’s baby, Cordelia.  Billy came forward as the father and Chloe admitted that she and Cane had never actually had sex, she had drugged him and told him they had sex.  Lily and Cane reconciled and they were married.

Cane had done some lying of his own.  He had everyone believing he was the real Chancellor heir, Phillip Chancellor, III.  The real Phillip showed up and the whole truth was uncovered.  Lily forgave Cane for this lie.  He continued to lie throughout their marriage and she continued to forgive him, even after he allowed her to believe he was killed and he was haunting her.

Lily won a war against cancer, but was unable to conceive.  Mackenzie Browning, granddaughter of Katherine Chancellor, agreed to be a surrogate.  She gave birth to twins Matilda (Matty) and Charlie.

Even though Lily has given him no reason to doubt her loyalty to him, Cane is jealous and possessive.  He insists Lily is too kind-hearted to see peoples’ true intentions.

Lily is, in fact, a very loyal wife and friend.  She loves her children very much as well as her job and she does a good job of juggling the two.  While she does tend to see only the good in people, she is a smart and savvy woman who can have it all in spite of all the tragedy she’s endured.

Parents: Drucilla Barber, Malcolm Winters (biological father), Neil Winters (legal father)
Siblings: Devon Hamilton (adoptive), Moses Winters (legal)
Children: Charlie and Matilda Ashby

Y&R Character Description – Esther Valentine

Esther Valentine

Esther

Esther Valentine has been a loyal housekeeper and friend to Katherine Chancellor for many years.  For a short time, Esther worked for Nina after being lured away with promises of a better dress code and equal treatment.  Esther soon found out that working for Katherine wasn’t as bad as she thought, and she returned to the Chancellor estate.

Tired of being lonely, Esther had a one-night stand with Tiny and became pregnant.  She named the baby Kate and asked Katherine to be Kate’s godmother.  As a child, Kate was sent off to school.

Again having the need for male companionship, Esther began dating Norman Peterson.  She pretended to be the lady of the Chancellor estate.  Not wanting to embarrass Esther, Katherine and her husband Rex played along.  Rex caught Norman trying to steal from Katherine and confronted him, who was actually an ex-con.  Rex was shot in the process.

Proving that Esther is quick to trust and has bad luck with men, she, once again, became involved with a man who only wanted to get his hands on the Chancellor fortune.  Katherine was kidnapped and presumed dead, leaving Esther financially secure.  Esther and Roger were married, but he turned out to be married to someone else.  Katherine was reunited with her family.

When the time came for the folks at the Chancellor estate to meet Cane’s new bride-to-be, Esther was surprised to see it was her daughter, Kate, who was now going by the name Chloe.  Chloe had a daughter she named Cordelia.

Y&R Character Description – Nikki Newman

Nicole “Nikki” Newman

Written By Darlene
on August 15, 2013

Nikki Newman loves her family and friends above everything else.  She often puts their needs ahead of her own.  Victor is the love of her life and, though they tend to hurt, hate, and leave each other, they belong together and always find their ways back.  Nikki often offers Victor good advice, but he seldom takes it.

Nikki is married to Victor.  They have two children together, Nicholas and Victoria.  Nikki is also stepmother to Adam and Abby.  She is grandmother to the late Cassie Newman, Noah Newman, Summer Newman, Faith Newman, Reed Helstrom, and Johnny Abbott.

Nikki is a recovering alcoholic.  Her sponsor is also her best friend, Katherine Chancellor.  Nikki is sponsor to Neil Winters who, in turn, sponsors Nikki’s friend and former husband, Jack Abbott.  Nikki struggles with her alcoholism when terrible things happen to her or her family, but Victor always comes to the rescue, though he still keeps alcohol readily available and out in the open in his home.

Nikki is a loyal friend and she usually takes the high road in moral decisions.  As long as your name isn’t Adam or Sharon and as long as you aren’t threatening her family, Nikki always has a kind word.  She is a class act. Hard to believe she started out as a stripper.

Parents: Nicholas Reed and Unknown
Children: Dylan McAvoy, Victoria and Nicholas Newman, Adam Newman (stepson), Abby Newman (stepdaughter)
Siblings: Casey Reed
Grandchildren: Cassidy Newman (adoptive), Noah, Summer and Faith Newman, Reed Hellstrom, Katherine Abbott, Johnny Abbott (adoptive), Christian Newman (adoptive), Connor Newman (step)

Y&R Character Description – Nick Newman

Nicholas Newman

Nick

Nicholas Newman
Played By Josh Morrow
Written By Darlene

on May 22, 2013

Nicholas “Nick” Newman spent most of his life trying to make his father, business mogul Victor Newman, proud; but it always seemed that Victor held the bar higher for his son than his daughters, Victoria and Abby.  Nick realized that he would never make Victor proud and he no longer cared.  He ventured out on his own and discovered his own passion, which had nothing to do with business.  Nick is the owner of Genoa City’s newest nightclub, “The Underground.”

Nick is not only flaky in his professional life but also in matters of the heart.  He married his first love, Sharon, but strayed more than once.  When he found himself expecting a child with his mistress, Phyllis Summers, he divorced Sharon and married Phyllis.  He cheated on Phyllis with Sharon, and they divorced.  He planned to marry Sharon again, but she chose his brother, Adam.  Nick went back to Phyllis but decided he didn’t want to play her games, so he left her and hooked up with her sister, Avery.  It seems Nick may not have inherited his father’s head for business but they both have wandering hearts.

Nick would do anything to protect his family.  In spite of all the hearts he breaks, he feels the need to protect the women in his life, not the least of which is Summer, the child he conceived out of wedlock with Phyllis.  Summer, who became a beautiful young woman, is prone to mischief and makes foolish decisions in spite of warnings from family and friends.  This could be because Nick refuses to let her grow up.

Though Nick can be callous and hypocritical at times, he has a way of making people love him and forget all the horrible things he’s done.  After all, compared to his brother, Adam, in many ways Nick is a saint.

Grandparents: Albert and Cora Miller (paternal), Nicholas Reed (maternal)

Aunts and Uncles: Matt Miller, (paternal), Casey Reed (maternal)

Recap written by Suzanne

Liam and Hope have decorated Steffy’s home, with the help of Beth and Kelly, with balloons and more. They wonder how Steffy is doing. Hope offers to help take care of Kelly if Steffy needs it. Liam thinks that’s a great idea, but he figures that Steffy will just want to see Kelly when she gets home. Later, Hope tells him that the girls are sound asleep. She’s glad they were able to fix up the place for Steffy. They stocked the fridge for her and will be welcoming her home. They agree that it’s a miracle that Steffy didn’t get hurt worse in her accident (because she was wearing a helmet). They admire the beautiful flowers that Taylor sent. Liam tells Hope that Thomas was in contact with Douglas as well. At the hospital, Steffy tells Dr. Finnegan that she just wants to go home and see her daughter. Steffy asks if she can pick up Kelly, but the doctor cautions her against any kind of lifting or exertion. He asks about her pain. She claims it’s much better. The doctor can tell that she’s in more pain than she’s letting on. He advises her to take more medication if she needs it, so she can heal.  She doesn’t want to be in a fog when she’s with Kelly, but she agrees. Ridge arrives, ready to take Steffy home. The doctor tells Ridge that Steffy needs to take her medication so that she can heal properly. He tells Steffy that she shouldn’t do any lifting or driving, and that she should take a pill when she gets home. Ridge promises to make sure she does, and he thanks the doctor and staff for their help. Steffy and Ridge arrive at her home. She’s walking very stiffly but loves the decorations they made for her. After saying hello to Liam and Hope, she insists on going in to see Kelly, even though the girls are asleep. Ridge reminds Steffy to take her pain medication as the doctor ordered. Liam points out to Stefft what she’s gone through and insists she take the medication to give herself a break. She tries to argue, but she gives in. Hope looks worried.

Wyatt and Flo greet each other after sleeping together in the beach house. They decide not to think about Sally any more and plan to have more sex, but Katie shows up. She wonders where Sally is and why she texted her an apology. They fill Katie in on what’s been happening with Sally. Katie is relieved that Sally isn’t dying, but she’s very angry at her for lying to everyone and using her. Flo is obviously still very annoyed at Sally, whereas Wyatt is more sympathetic. He tells Katie that he couldn’t bring himself to press charges against Sally and Penny. After Katie leaves, Wyatt tells Flo how special she is to him. He gives her many compliments as they sit on the couch and smile lovingly at each other. Meanwhile, Sally sits alone in her apartment, looking glum and crying. Katie drops by. Sally doesn’t open the door when Katie knocks, so Katie opens it. She asks Sally, “How could you?”

Ciara, Claire, Shawn, and Hope talked to Chloe about Eve possibly bombing the church. Chloe couldn’t believe Eve could do that. Eve continued to make Ben think he was strangling Ciara. He thought about her and couldn’t go through with strangling her anymore. Sonny confronted Sami about going to Rafe about Allie’s baby. He let her know that she ruined everything. She wanted to know how it was her fault. Allie wanted to know why Lucas kept Sami’s secret. He tried to explain himself, but she went off on him. She said the only person she could trust was Will. She didn’t want to see Lucas anymore. Allie called Rafe and wanted him to come to the hospital. Will spoke up when Sonny yelled at Sami about what she did. Rafe went to Allie’s room and she confronted him about knowing what Sami did. Ben tried to escape the warehouse, but Vincent and Eve caught up to him. Vincent continued to brainwash Ben to kill Ciara. Chloe talked to Hope and company about the way Eve changed.

Sonny wanted answers from Sami about her intentions of keeping him and Will in the dark about the baby. She wanted them to be the ones to get the baby. He had trouble believing her, but she didn’t care. Rafe explained what happened when Sami talked to him. Allie wanted to know why he didn’t tell her so he explained that too. Chloe continued to tell everyone how Eve was talking about Ben and wanting revenge. She also mentioned how Eve met a new man. Hope asked if Eve gave her a name. She told them that the guy’s name was Vincent. Eve continued to torture Ben. Sami wanted to sign the adoption papers, but Sonny didn’t want her to do it. He and Will wanted to talk to Allie themselves. Eve told Ben that she didn’t care who she had to hurt because of what he did to Paige. He warned her that she wouldn’t get her daughter back. She didn’t think that he should live happily while she suffered. Sonny and Will checked on Allie and were ready for her to sign the papers. Vincent continued to give Ben electric shocks. Outside Sally’s room, Penny tells Flo that she’s not a bad person. Flo wonders if Penny is really as gullible as she pretends to be. However, Flo has some sympathy because she’s known people who can talk you into anything, even though it’s against your better judgment (like Reese). Flo goes in for a while to Sally’s room. Sally wants her to help talk Wyatt into forgiving her, but Flo says it’s his call. In Sally’s room, Sally begs Wyatt to forgive her. She says she’ll understand if he writes her off or puts her in jail. She keeps trying to explain why she did what she did, and how sorry she is. Wyatt says they won’t press charges, but he can’t be around her right now. He wants her to go off and find the talented, amazing woman that she used to be. He tells her goodbye in a very final way.

Brooke suggests to Ridge that he phone Taylor to let her know about Steffy’s accident. He agrees and adds that he’ll also let Thomas know. The doctor talks to Ridge about Steffy not wanting any more pain medication. Bill still feels very guilty. Liam tells him it’s not his fault. Steffy does, too, later on. Bill and Liam go to get coffee. Ridge and Liam chat with Steffy about Kelly, and also about how she needs to rest and get better. The doctor kicks everyone out so Steffy can rest. Dr. Finn asks Steffy how her pain is. She tries to be tough, saying it’s not that bad, but he can tell that she’s suffering. He suggests that she not try to be so tough. Later, he offers pain medication again, and she agrees, whimpering.

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Eve and Vincent had Ben tied up and were ready to brainwash him. Will got a call from Lucas about Allie having the baby. He told Sonny the news and he was excited. Nicole felt bad about telling Allie the truth. She and Eric talked about Sami and Allie’s argument. Sami and Belle talked about Eve going after Ben. Sami understood how Eve reacted the way she did. Belle told her how Hope and Shawn were worried about Ciara. She said that Claire wanted to redeem herself with Ciara. Ciara, Hope, Shawn, and Claire were in New York. Ciara wanted to go to Eve’s place to find out where Ben was. Hope let her know it wouldn’t happen.

Eve wanted to know how Ben was feeling. She told him that a mind altering drug was being placed in his body. He wanted to know what she wanted. She reminded him that she was turning him into the necktie killer. She wanted to know when was the last time he took his meds. She had more drugs for him to break him down. She wanted him to choke the life out of Ciara the way he took the life out of Paige. Hope said that she and Shawn would talk to Eve and Ciara and Claire had to wait. Ciara and Claire objected, but Hope explained why they couldn’t go. Claire wanted to follow Hope and Shawn so they could find Ben too. Claire decided not to go after Ciara talked to her. Ciara thought she might be too late and Eve might have killed him. Claire assured her that Eve would have killed him at the church. Eve told him how she went to Paige’s grave and wondered how he could live. She thought he loved Ciara and needed love. She knew he had to live so he would know what real love was and found out what it felt like to lose her.

Belle was surprised that Allie had the baby and that Sami didn’t tell her. Sami explained that Allie and the baby were okay. She was sad that Allie didn’t want her to be there. Belle tried to make her feel better, but she said it was her own fault that Allie didn’t want her in her life. Will and Sonny checked on Allie’s baby. They thought they were lucky. Eric and Nicole arrived at the hospital. Eric told them that Nicole was Allie’s birthing coach and they wondered why she didn’t call them. Nicole admitted that Sami didn’t want her to do it. Ben said he wouldn’t kill Ciara. Eve told him what Vincent was going to do to him. She continued to tell him what was going to happen to him. Vincent explained to Ben what he planned on putting into him.

Sami continued to talk to Belle about Nicole causing her pain. Belle didn’t think it was true since she’s married to their brother. Sami said that Nicole was the reason why Allie was mad at her. Sami said she did something so Belle wanted to know what she did. Nicole told Will and Sonny that Sami didn’t want them called in case Allie bonded with the baby. Will slipped and said it wasn’t true. He had a flashback of his conversation with Sami. Sonny didn’t care what Sami wanted because Allie said they could have the baby. Nicole said there was something she had to tell them. Eve warned Ben he would feel sensations. She wanted to take him on a trip down memory lane. She said Vincent would control his reactions to what he saw.

A picture of Ciara popped up. Hope and Shawn arrived at Eve’s apartment and the door was open. Eric told Will and Sonny that Sami convinced Rafe not to adopt the baby. Belle couldn’t believe what Sami said to her. Belle wanted to know if Allie knew that Lucas and Will knew her plan. Belle didn’t think Allie would want to see her for a while. Ben saw more images of the wedding. Ben said he loved to see Ciara happy. Eve said that was going to change. Vincent charged him to brainwash him. Hope and Shawn told Claire and Ciara how Eve’s apartment was paid off and how it looked clean. Eve showed Ben pictures of Paige and Ciara.

Sami tried to explain why she went to Rafe. Belle thought she needed to give Allie some space. Sami wanted to go to Allie to talk to her. Nicole continued to tell Will and Sonny what happened. Eric wanted to check on Allie. Sonny was upset with Sami, but he was grateful Will wasn’t like her. Shawn thought he knew someone who could help find Chloe. Ben called out Ciara’s name. Eve brought in a mannequin that was dressed like Ciara. Sonny wanted to find Sami and tell her to stay out of her business. Sami showed up just as Sonny was finished talking about her. Chloe showed up to talk to Ciara, Hope, Shawn, and Claire. They needed her help with Eve. Eve put the necktie in Ben’s hands and told him to kill Ciara. He looked at Ciara’s picture on the monitor.

Primetime TV Review: “Muppets Now”

TV Review!

Muppets Now poster
Review by Eva

I was excited to learn that the Muppets were going to have a show on Disney+. The thirty-minute episodes will be posted every Friday. The first episode begins with Scooter editing the week’s episode and getting suggestions from everyone on what to do. Miss Piggy has a lifestyle segment. Miss Piggy is upset with Scooter about the opening of her segment because it says Lifesty instead of Lifestyle. So, Scooter adds the le with a hyphen (Lifesty-le). My favorite part of the show is the cooking segment featuring the Swedish Chef. The Swedish Chef competes with a celebrity chef in creating a real recipe. Of course, the Swedish Chef gets frustrated and that makes for a very funny segment. The first episode’s guest stars areactor Taye Diggs, RuPaul, and chef Carlina Will.

This show is great for kids, but if you have a child with a short attention span, you might want to split the thirty-minute show and watch it one or two segments at a time. I love the Muppets, but I have to admit that some parts of the show are better than others, depending on which guests are on each segment and how well they interact with the Muppet characters. Also, some of the sketches are longer than others and at times are not funny. I hope the show continues and gets better with time. I give this show a 4 out of 5 stars because it has room for improvement.

More Information:

Muppets Now is The Muppets Studio’s first unscripted series and first original series for Disney+. In the six-episode season, Scooter rushes to make his delivery deadlines and upload the brand-new Muppet series for streaming. They are due now, and he’ll need to navigate whatever obstacles, distractions, and complications the rest of the Muppet gang throws at him. Overflowing with spontaneous lunacy, surprising guest stars and more frogs, pigs, bears (and whatevers) than legally allowed, the Muppets cut loose in “Muppets Now” with the kind of startling silliness and chaotic fun that made them famous. From zany experiments with Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker to lifestyle tips from the fabulous Miss Piggy, each episode is packed with hilarious segments, hosted by the Muppets showcasing what the Muppets do best. Produced by The Muppets Studio and Soapbox Films, “Muppets Now” premieres Friday, July 31, streaming only on Disney+.

Interview with Serinda Swan and Morwyn Brebner

TV Interview!

Serinda Swan of "Coroner" on The CWMorwyn Brebner from "Coroner" on The CW

Interview with actress Serinda Swan and executive producer Morwyn Brebner from “Coroner” on The CW by Suzanne 7/31/20

Jamie Ruby of SciFiVision asked me to sub for her in this last-minute interview when she had a family emergency. I was happy to do it.

Both of these women seemed very nice, and they were happy to talk about their show. I just loved Serinda as “Zatanna” on “Smallville” (my favorite superheroine of all time, actually), and she was great in “The Inhumans” as well. I know a lot of people said terrible things about that show, but it wasn’t that bad. I grew up reading those comics, so I enjoyed it.  I’m glad she was able to star in this successful Canadian show.  The CW has picked it up, so it premieres Wednesday, August 5.  In Canada, they’ve seen two seasons already and are preparing for the third.

I watched the first two shows and enjoyed them.  It’s a good detective show (even if she is a coroner – of course she solves crimes!).   Roger Cross, one of my favorite Canadian actors, stars as her detective partner, Donovan McAvoy. It’s got some very interesting characters, so I hope you can check it out.

You can read the interview on Jamie’s site.

On August 5th, The CW will introduce U.S. audiences to the hit Canadian show, CORONER.  The show’s debut on the CBC network in Canada was the net’s highest rated new drama in four years, and in the UK, it was the highest rated drama EVER on Universal TV.  We will be airing the first two seasons of the show this fall and season three of the series has already been greenlit and starts filming next month in Canada!

CORONER is a compelling, character-driven drama starring Serinda Swan (“Ballers,” “Inhumans,” “Graceland”) as Dr. Jenny Cooper, a recently-widowed doctor who becomes the city’s new Coroner.  The series is a gripping look at a woman committed to discovering the truth on behalf of the deceased.

View Coroner Promo Here

Show Description:

In the character driven one-hour drama CORONER Dr. Jenny Cooper (Serinda Swan), a recently widowed, newly appointed coroner investigates any suspicious, unnatural or sudden deaths in Toronto. The series reflects the rich racial, class and gender diversity of the city. Each death brings Jenny into a new arena in the city and sparks buzzworthy themes…As CORONER, Jenny taps into her intuition, as much as her intellect and heart, as she solves cases along with the help of Homicide Detective Donovan “Mac” McAvoy (Roger Cross), a man who isn’t afraid of challenging status quo; pathologist Dr. Dwayne Allen (Lovell Adams-Gray), his assistant River Baitz (Kiley May); and Alison Trent (Tamara Podemski), Jenny’s assistant who keeps it real. And while Jenny solves mysterious deaths, she also deals with clinical anxiety, a teenage son, Ross (Ehren Kassam), who is still grieving the death of his father, and the prospect of starting a new relationship with the enigmatic Liam (Éric Bruneau).

New Episode of ABC News’ ‘What Would You Do?’ Features Scenarios on Rising Student Loan Debt, Crying in Public, Babysitting While Drunk and More

A woman babysitting two young children brings them to a bar for lunch. She expresses she is overwhelmed by her job and decides a drink will help her cope. When one drink turns into multiple, what will others say? Will they step in when she tries to leave to drive the children home?
A teacher is in a store shopping for food for herself and basic school supplies for her class. Her credit card is denied at the register and she removes food from her cart instead of school supplies, explaining that her students need them. What will other shoppers do? (OAD: 9/7/18)

Airing Friday, August 7, 2020 (9:01 PM-11:00 PM EST) ‘20/20’ Reports on Man Who Killed His Business Partner and Then Hatched Elaborate Plan to Cover It Up
After Christopher Smith abruptly vanished from Southern California, email messages supposedly from him continued to land in the inboxes of his friends and family for months afterward, assuring them he was safe and traveling the world. Eventually authorities uncovered the sinister truth that Smith’s business partner, Edward Shin, murdered him and then hatched an elaborate plan, including the fake emails, to cover it up. The two-hour “20/20” tells the complicated tale of how authorities carefully connected the dots, which landed Shin in prison for life. ABC News chief national correspondent Matt Gutman sat down for an extensive jailhouse interview with Shin, who opened up about killing Smith; his shady past; and why he’s remained silent about the location of Smith’s body, a burning question authorities are still trying to answer. THE CONVICTED KILLER OF A TEXAS FIREFIGHTER TELLS HER SIDE OF THE STORY IN AN ENCORE OF “48 HOURS: CHACEY POYNTER: WITNESS TO MURDER”
Chacey Poynter, a Texas woman convicted in the 2016 murder of her husband, University Park Fire Department Captain Robert Poynter, tells her story about what happened the night he died to correspondent Peter Van Sant, in an encore of 48 HOURS: “Chacey Poynter: Witness to Murder,” to be broadcast Saturday, August 8 (10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Robert Poynter was shot in the head while sitting in his wife’s Jeep, on an unmaintained country road in Royse City, Texas. His wife, Chacey Poynter, told police she’d called her husband for help after she claimed her Jeep was stuck in mud. She claims when Robert Poynter got in to help move the vehicle, he was shot by a man who emerged from the dark. She told police she had no idea who fired the fatal shot. From the moment police arrived at the scene, they were skeptical of Poynter’s story of what happened. Everything she told them – in breathless and halting sentences – was captured by police body cameras, including an admission that she was having problems in her marriage. The investigation into the murder exposed the fractured relationship between the Poynters, including a twisted plot for killing the 47-year-old firefighter, whose wife, then 29, had carried on multiple extramarital affairs. 48 HOURS and Van Sant investigate the case through interviews with law enforcement officers, Robert Poynter’s daughters and his ex-wife, Chacey Poynter’s defense attorneys, and the prosecutors.
