Sally: [ Sighs heavily ]

[ Keys clacking ]

Sally: Do you remember when you introduced me to this nectar?

Adam: As I recall, you took to it right away.

Sally: Just like I took to you right away.

Sally: [ Breathes deeply ]

Sally: When I am overcome with inspiration, I have a hard time holding back.

Nick: Whereas I tend to do the exact opposite — overthink things. Sometimes it’s best, though, just to dive in, learn as you go.

Sally: [ Sighing ]

Adam: Wait a minute. Are you saying that you’re falling in love with me?

[ Knock on door ]

Summer: Hi. Busy?

Sally: [ Sighs ]

[ Door opens ]

Adam: [ Sighs ]

[ Door closes ]

Nick: There you are. You weren’t at your place. Took a shot you’d still be up on the roof.

Adam: Well, congratulations, nick. You found me, okay? Now, I strongly suggest that you turn around and you head back down those stairs.

Lily: So what happened when you confronted tucker?

Devon: Oh. I tried my best, but it wasn’t easy to get a straight answer out of him. And at first, he was shocked that I would accuse him of trying to pull a takeover of chancellor-winters.

Lily: Well, was it real shock or fake?

Devon: At first I thought it was fake, and then he swore up and down that he would never do anything to jeopardize our relationship or hurt me or my company.

Lily: Right. Well, I know that he’s saying the right things, but do you actually believe him?

Devon: Well, that’s the question, isn’t it? I have no clue. I would feel dumb if I did, just because this is exactly the kind of thing that tucker would do. And he has a long history of going after companies and taking them over. So, who’s to say? I really don’t know who to trust these days after watching nate do something that unforgivable to his own damn family. I’ll tell you that.

[ Door opens ]

Victoria: Nate, come in.

Nate: Thank you for meeting me.

[ Door closes ]

Victoria: The message that you left me yesterday has me a little concerned. I assume that the development that’s not good that you mentioned has to do with our takeover plans for chancellor-winters.

Nate: That’s right.

Victoria: Alright, well, why don’t you give me the details and we can adjust our strategy accordingly. I’m sure that there’s, um — there’s no setback that we can’t possibly handle.

Nate: I’m afraid this is more than just a setback. The plan’s been exposed.

Victoria: Well, how in the world did that happen? Elena’s the only one that knew what we were up to, but she wouldn’t possibly betray you like that.

Nate: No. It wasn’t elena. The person guilty of betrayal here is me.

Victoria: You exposed our plan?

[ Scoffs ] Why on earth would you do that?

Nate: We were just about to file the final paperwork for the launch. Everything was coming together smoothly. I had truly convinced myself that this was the right move to make for all parties involved — the opportunity we were creating for everyone to benefit from. Lily and devon were too cautious to take the company to the next level, but not me. And then elena walked into the office.

Victoria: Why?

Nate: To tell me goodbye for good.

Victoria: I’m so sorry to hear that. I fear that I may have played a part in her decision.

Nate: What do you mean?

Victoria: I ran into her after our meeting. I tried to smooth things out with her — for you.

Nate: And what did you say to her?

Victoria: I simply implied that you were making a very wise business decision.

Nate: I can imagine how that went over.

Victoria: Didn’t go very well, and she accused me of being the only one that would get anything out of this deal and said that I didn’t care how it was affecting your relationship with your family.

[ Sighs ] I’m afraid that I made things worse.

Nate: No. No. I can’t blame you. Elena already made her position quite clear.

Victoria: I just…

Nate: When, um, things came to a head at the office and she walked out on me, I realized i had to reevaluate everything.

Victoria: I wish you would have figured this out sooner, like when I gave you the chance to back out. I even asked you if this was gonna be worth all the problems it was causing in your relationship.

Nate: At the time, I thought I could handle it, make it work.

[ Chuckles ] But I was — I was fooling myself. After I confessed, I came home to elena and told her I came clean for us. But it was more than that. On some level, I knew I had to do it because deep down inside, I knew she was right. Not only could I not risk losing her, but I had to admit that I didn’t want to lose my family. Now here I am, having lost them all.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Look, what are you still doing here, nick? I hope you didn’t get us locked on this roof because there’s not enough food or champagne if we get stranded here.

Nick: Don’t tempt me. I just might lock you up here all alone, unless you’re straight with me.

Adam: Look, may I suggest that we have this intense conversation another time? Because I am really not in the mood.

Nick: Well, you better get in the mood, adam. I’m not leaving here unless i get some answers. What is the matter with you? Why would you lure sally up here under false pretenses?

Adam: Well, based on your question, I gather that while i was up here waiting for the sun to come up, sally ran to you to spill her version of the story.

Nick: Yeah. I talked to her.

Adam: Oh, good. Should I even bother getting up? If I do, are you just gonna knock me back down?

Nick: I did not come up here to fight with you. But I want to make sure we’re clear about something. We are not going to put sally in the middle of yet another brother-against-brother feud.

Adam: [ Breathes deeply ]

Sally: Sorry, summer, i actually am quite busy here.

Summer: Really? You didn’t seem busy. It seemed like you were kind of drifting off the first two times I knocked.

Sally: Mm-hmm. Well, I am the ceo, and I have a lot on my shoulders, so often i contemplate what my next strategic move is gonna be, which is probably why I didn’t hear you knock. Sure, yeah, I can spare you a brief moment.

Summer: Yeah, I know you must be swamped trying to make a good impression here.

Sally: Exactly what brings you by you? You in the building visiting family, or do I owe this special visit just to see me?

Summer: No, it’s actually your lucky day ’cause I am here to speak directly to you.

Sally: Really? Well, why is that? Did you finally decide to take me up on my offer to promote your fashion house?

Summer: [ Chuckles ] No. Marchetti is doing amazing. Thank you. And judging by the way you do business, I don’t really want you anywhere near mine. This is about something else.

Sally: Hmm. I wonder what that could possibly be.

Summer: I want to know what’s going on between you and my dad, why you’re spending time together outside of the office.

Sally: You know, I don’t take all my meetings here. I mean, you know, people often do business over lunch.

Summer: This seems like a little more than a lunch meeting or two.

Sally: There’s nothing happening.

Summer: I saw you, sally, with my dad yesterday at crimson lights, and you definitely weren’t talking media outlets or having a meal. You were in each other’s arms. So just cut the crap and tell me what’s actually going on. And don’t even try to act like it’s innocent because it looked like anything but. Ladies…

Sally: I think you’re reading far too much into a simple hug. Nick and I are just friends. I don’t know about you and your friends, but mine offer me a supportive embrace and a little pat on the back every once in a while.

Summer: Really? You have friends?

Sally: Believe it or not, yeah, I do.

Summer: I’m gonna have to put that in the “not” folder. Just because we’ve stayed out of each other’s way lately doesn’t mean I trust you.

Sally: Well, rest assured, the feeling’s mutual.

Summer: Don’t think that I’ve forgotten the number you pulled trying to take over my old job at fenmore’S. So, yeah, the idea of you possibly dating my dad is beyond disturbing.

Sally: Okay, look, whatever happened back then is old news. I am not that same person anymore.

Summer: One more thing I find unbelievable.

Sally: Tell me, summer — why did you feel the need to talk to me about this? Why don’t you just go directly to your father?

Summer: Because I wanted to see what all of this was about first. I know how you like to operate, sally. So, just tell me. Are you using my dad to make adam jealous, or is this a power move of yours because my dad is now in at newman media and adam is out?

Sally: So, what is it that you’re trying to say, that it’s absolutely impossible for me to just enjoy nick’s company and he mine? Clearly, in your mind, there’s no innocent possible reason why we could be hanging out. It all has to be low and conniving.

Summer: You said it.

Nick: Hey. Did you hear me?

Adam: Of course I did. I mean, when nick newman makes one of his heroic declarations, everyone listens. Except this one fell a little flat because sally isn’t in the middle of anything, nick, since I can’t compete with my great and noble big brother.

Nick: Come on, man.

Adam: No. I mean, really. Please proceed on your chivalrous crusade and keep playing the role of the protector to the hilt.

Nick: I heard about this little stunt last night while sally was still here. Did you see me rush over here to come to her rescue?

Adam: Why is that? Was your, uh, cape at the dry cleaner?

Nick: I just figured you two needed some time to work out some things, so I gave you some space. But I need to know going forward, do I need to protect her from you?

Adam: [ Scoffs ] Please relax. I’m not a glutton for punishment. And I can take a hint. Alright? Sally has made her choice, and I’m not gonna beg. I know I can’t force her to forgive me.

Nick: Well, I’m glad you finally realized that.

Adam: So you and sally are free to do whatever the hell you want together. And I guess I’m destined to lose everything I want and I care about to one sibling or the other. It’s called “the curse of the black sheep.”

Lily: Look, I feel the same way, okay? What nate has done is incredibly hurtful.

Devon: What happened yesterday after I left? Did he still just try and blame everything on me?

Lily: Honestly, I don’t even remember anything that he said, really. I mean, I just — I’ve been in complete shock. I can’t even believe that he would do this to us. Billy is furious.

Devon: He’s not the only one.

Lily: And I keep trying to concentrate on work, but all i can think is, how could he do this, I mean, to his own family? He was so a willing to put us in a vulnerable position to where we could lose control of this place.

Devon: Oh, I know. Believe me. And I understand why it’s hard for you to focus on work, but I’ll tell you that that’s exactly what we all need to do. We need to clear our minds and figure out how to move forward strategically.

Lily: No, I know, and we were all systems go when it came to the ipo.

Devon: Right, and so was this other person that nate was working with. And assuming that tucker’s telling the truth, did he give any hints about who it is?

Lily: No. After everything, he didn’t tell me anything. So we’re facing an unknown attacker.

Devon: Well, that’s — that’s great. So, the smart thing for us to do, then, is to pull the plug on this ipo deal.

Lily: Well, look, we can’t make that call, okay? Not right now, anyway.

Victoria: I’m just so sorry that your decision to form an alliance with me has — has cost you so much.

Nate: Yeah. I’m sorry, too. For so many things, I mean, including letting you down. I know you were already making financial moves to free up the necessary capital to buy chancellor-winters’ shares.

Victoria: Well, yes, it did take a little maneuvering, but it’s nothing that can’t be undone. Right now, I’m just wondering when a furious devon and lily are gonna come banging down my door. I’m sure they’re not very happy with me.

Nate: You don’t have to worry about that. I never revealed your identity. I only told them that I was meeting with another ceo. And tucker mccall’s well-timed splashy entrance puts the spotlight on him as the likely culprit. And I refused to confirm or deny.

Victoria: I appreciate your personal loyalty. But the fact that you didn’t expose me makes me realize something.

Nate: What’s that?

Victoria: All is not lost. We could still pull off this takeover. I’m not sure I’m ready to give up on the idea of controlling chancellor-winters.

Nate: But their guard is up now, and they’re gonna be extremely cautious.

Victoria: Yes, but lily and devon see tucker as the only threat left. They don’t think I’m involved at all. And they think that you’ve given up. So you could still sell me your shares. You told me that you feel like you’ve already lost everything. So, what do you have to lose? This is gloria.

Nick: I don’t believe in curses. I believe we make our own destiny.

Adam: Yeah, of course you do, nick, because 9 times out of 10, you get what you want with minimal effort.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Look, you’re still in love with sally. I get it. And I know you don’t take those emotions lightly. But do you mean it when you say you’re going to accept this? Or are you going to do what you always do, and that is blame everyone else and punish everyone else for the situation, a situation that you created in the first place when you pushed sally away?

Adam: Don’t worry, nick, okay? I’m not gonna ruin any lives before I’ve had my morning coffee. And I’ll probably restrain myself after that. So, rest assured, you can run back to sally and tell her that you saved the day yet again. Meanwhile, I have a job to go to. Unless you’re going to take that away from me, too.

Nick: [ Sighs ]

[ Door closes ]

Summer: Look, I didn’t come here to throw around insults. The point is that my dad deserves better — much better.

Sally: Do you not see that what you just said is the exact definition of an insult?

Summer: Take it however you want. You just need to understand that my dad has had enough romantic drama to last a few lifetimes.

Sally: Yeah, thanks to your mom.

Summer: He deserves something clean and easy and honest. He has a big protective heart, and he’s got this overwhelming desire to save broken people. But you, sally, you’re not just broken. You’re a train wreck. And the last thing he needs is to be pulled into your disaster of a life.

Sally: Well, thank you, summer, for your sage advice. I definitely will take that into consideration. But just for the record, what i think he deserves is more credit from his daughter. Why don’t you just let him make his own decisions, like he lets you make yours?

Nate: I hear your argument about not giving up on our plan. Yes, it’s over between me and elena. And unfortunately, lily and devon may never forgive me. But the plan isn’t even possible anymore.

Victoria: Why not?

Nate: I had no previously agreed-upon contract for the shares. Neil willed me a seat on the board of hamilton-winters, but that never legally translated into an ownership stake, even after the merger.

Victoria: But when they do go public…

Nate: If they do go public, and I’m sure that’s all up in the air now. And they will never give me any shares. Even if I had stock, what elena said really hit me. She was right about the person i was turning into. And I need to decide what kind of man I want to be. And I have.

Victoria: Nate, listen, what we were planning — it didn’t make you a terrible person.

Nate: Maybe not, but what i was doing to my family was ultimately hurting them. And I never want to do that again because the man I want to be wouldn’t sell my shares to you or anyone. After neil passed away, he left me a seat on the board of his family’s company because he trusted me. How could I have forgotten that? The whole point of the merger was for all of us to come together. If I act now, I may have a chance to get my family back, and I need to focus on that.

Victoria: I can’t be upset at you for being true to your family. It’s something that my father instilled in me since I was very young. I want you to be successful.

Nate: Thank you for understanding.

Victoria: And I know that you were able to keep my name out of it, even under what i assume was extreme pressure from lily and devon. And then you came to me with the news right away, and that means a lot to me.

Nate: It was the right thing to do.

Victoria: I think I have a way to reward that loyalty. I assume that you’re not employed at chancellor-winters anymore.

Nate: I was fired. No surprise there.

Victoria: Well, I would like to make sure that you don’t stay unemployed for long. I’m gonna find you a suitable position here. Chancellor-winters’ loss is newman’s gain.

Kyle: Just checking to see if the plane is ready to take off. Did you stock the galley with chocolate-covered strawberries and champagne like I requested? Thanks. Good. Want the honeymoon to start off right. You look like hell.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Well, I guess that’s why you’re in the fashion division and I am not.

Kyle: What’s your problem, adam?

Adam: Hmm? Um, I wasn’t aware that I had one.

Kyle: Well, lately, you rarely even show up to work, and today you show up late and clearly in no condition to do any legitimate work. I told my father that you’d be nothing but a liability to this company, and every day you prove me more and more right.

Adam: [ Breathes deeply ] Want to wake up to smoother, brighter skin day 1?

Devon: Well, hang on now. Why are you against shutting down the ipo deal? ‘Cause if we go public, it’s gonna make us vulnerable again to another attack like the one we just avoided with nate.

Lily: Because it’s not up to me. Going public was jill’s idea. We have to check in with her and see where she stands.

Devon: She’s gonna be pissed that this even happened. That’s where she’s gonna stand. And I highly doubt she’s gonna want to open ourselves back up to it happening all over again, right?

Lily: Okay, look, I don’t know what she’s gonna do, okay? But we have to take it into consideration because she’s co-owner.

Devon: No, that’s fine. We can consider it all day and night, but at the end of the day, I’m not gonna do it. I’m not. Half of this company is called winters, as in what I created with our father. So it’s just as much mine as it is hers. And I’m not gonna let anybody have a shot at screwing up what we built again. So, if jill wants to insist on going public, tell her to talk to me.

Nick: Hello, supergirl.

Summer: Hey, dad. Thanks for meeting me on such short notice. Look, there’s something that i want to discuss with you, and i want you to be completely honest with me.

Nick: Alright. Hit me.

Summer: Please tell me that you’re not getting involved with sally spectra.

Nick: [ Sighs ] I’m assuming you heard that from your brother.

Summer: [ Sighs ] That’s not the answer that i was hoping for. Dad, I’m only asking you about this because I’m worried about you. You must realize how dangerous she can be, how this could end in disaster, the way that you and mom repeatedly did.

Nick: I don’t think either one of those women want to be lumped together.

Summer: No, you’re right. Mom is nothing like that viper. It’s the situations that are comparable — you getting involved with a woman who’s not completely over her ex. Adam and sally. Mom and jack. I just… I don’t want to see you go through that again.

Nick: Summer, I understand what you’re getting at, but right now sally and I are just close friends.

Summer: You really mean that? There’s nothing more complicated or emotionally risky going on?

Nick: It’s nothing for you to worry about, okay? And, honestly, if there was something going on with me and sally, I can take care of myself.

Sally: Connor. Hi. You here alone?

Connor: Mom dropped me off to meet my dad, who’s late. But I’m fine. I’m not a kid, you know.

Sally: You’ve always struck me as very mature.

Connor: You here to take me to dad? Because that’d be cool if you were.

Sally: Uh, no, actually, that’s not why I’m here.

Connor: Oh. So, you and my dad aren’t back together again?

Adam: That’s funny, kyle. But why are you criticizing me? Don’t you have an important meeting about evening gowns to get to?

Kyle: Just go home. Get some sleep before anyone else notices your raggedy appearance and lack of professionalism.

Adam: Well, thank you for the advice, but why would I be worried about people noticing how I look when I’m sure you will waste no time spreading the word about that? And be sure to tell your father that I can’t handle a job that you totally bailed on. Nobody would ever think you are bitter about that.

Kyle: You just can’t take the loss, can you? You could admit that you screwed up and deal with the fallout, but, no, that would be too easy. You just have to keep digging that hole deeper.

Adam: You see, I would explain, but you wouldn’t understand it, kyle. It would go right over your head. See, men like you will never understand men like me.

Kyle: [ Chuckles ] I hope I never will. But I’m done wasting my time with you because as of this moment, I am on vacation. So you can keep digging that hole until you bury yourself in it. I’m not gonna stop you. There’s nothing like volunteering

Nick: Why are you even worried about this, summer? I mean, shouldn’t you be off packing, like, 16 pieces of luggage for your honeymoon?

Summer: Ha, ha. Very funny, dad. And I’ll have you know I have already packed — very lightly, at that.

Nick: Look at you, going light. Is that, like, 15 pieces then?

Summer: I mean, I’m not gonna need much more than some swimsuits and sunscreen where we’re going. This trip to costa rica — it’s gonna be amazing, all thanks to my wonderful husband. And to top it off, harrison is gonna come meet us for the last few days.

Nick: Well, it sounds like a perfect honeymoon.

Summer: Yeah. What more could a girl want? Although, I have to admit, I’m a little bit nervous about leaving marchetti.

Nick: I think they can manage without you for a week.

Summer: Yeah, maybe the company can, but what about mom and diane working together, having their kids so far away that we couldn’t do anything if they did try to pull something?

Nick: Look, just try and let it go, okay? You and kyle deserve this amazing trip. Promise me you’re not gonna let anything interfere with that.

Kyle: I promise for both of us.

Nick: There he is.

Well, glad you came. I got to go. I love you. You two have a great trip.

Summer: Hey, dad? I let you change the subject this time, but the conversation’s not over.

Nick: I can’t even hear you.

Kyle: I have a feeling I know what that conversation was about — sally, right? After the earful you gave me last night about seeing sally and your father together, I’m sure you had plenty to say to him now.

Summer: Yeah. I asked my dad what was going on, and I also confronted sally about it.

Kyle: Well, how did that go?

Summer: They both claim to be just friends, but it left me thinking that there’s certain benefits involved. I — [ Shudders ] I didn’t dare ask for clarification.

Kyle: Yeah, I get it. Too upsetting to even imagine.

Summer: Yeah.

Kyle: I had an equally frustrating run-in with my replacement this morning. Adam showed up late to jabot, looking hungover.

Summer: You’re kidding me. What — what is he thinking?

Kyle: Nope.

Summer: No.

Kyle: No more.

Summer: We are not talking about sally and adam.

Kyle: Or our mothers or even the issue with the textile company that is pushing back our resort collection.

Summer: No, we’re not gonna let anything wreck this vacation.

Kyle: Mnh-mnh.

Summer: From this moment forward, we are on honeymoon time.

Kyle: Mm-hmm.

Sally: I didn’t realize that you knew that your dad and i were dating. I guess kids know a lot more than adults give them credit for, huh?

Connor: Again, I’m not a kid, okay?

Sally: Right. Sorry.

Connor: My dad was always in a good mood after he was with you.

Sally: That’s very grown-up of you to notice. And very sweet of you to say.

Connor: I mean it. He would smile and laugh a lot. I could tell he was happy for a change. Now my dad’s back to not smiling so much.

Sally: I’m really sorry to hear that. But maybe part of the reason he’s so serious is because of his new, important job.

Connor: No. That’s not it. It’s because dad misses you.

[ Cellphone pings ]

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Nick: Hey.

Victoria: Oh, good. You’re here. I need to talk to you.

Nick: Well, I can tell by that expression on your face something’s gone sideways.

Victoria: I’m sure that you’ll be pleased to hear that the chancellor-winters takeover deal seems to have imploded.

Nick: Didn’t want to do it in the first place. I thought it was gonna end up in a disaster, and it would have destroyed our relationship with devon and lily. I am curious about what happened, though.

Victoria: Nate had a major change of heart.

Nick: Well, I’m glad he saw the light, that family is far more important than climbing a corporate ladder.

Victoria: Actually, I think that his second thoughts had more to do with his relationship with elena.

Nick: Can’t fault him for that.

Victoria: I suppose not, but even though he sacrificed the deal for her, she still might leave him.

Nick: And I’m sure you blame him for your deal falling apart?

Victoria: No, not at all. I feel bad for him. Look, I know you think that I’m overly ruthless right now, but i would never let my ambitions get in the way of my friendships.

Nick: I’m glad to hear that.

Victoria: So, now that newman no longer has this major deal on the table, I am going to refine things closer to home.

Nick: Alright. Where do you want to start?

Victoria: Newman media. I want to replace sally with nate.

Nick: I cannot believe after everything that happened with your bid to acquire chancellor-winters that you would turn around and offer nate sally’s job.

Victoria: I haven’t offered it to him yet. But I did tell him that I wanted to find a place for him here at newman.

Nick: As, what, a consolation prize? This can’t be a knee-jerk response just because chancellor-winters slipped through your grasp.

Victoria: That is not what this is. Look, I know, for whatever reason, you’ve been in sally’s corner, but I’ve always thought we could get a much stronger person in the position.

Nick: Just hear me out. Nate may have changed his mind, but he was ready and willing to turn his back on his family and his company. He has proven that his loyalties are flexible at best. And now you want to bring him into our company and fire sally without due cause?

Victoria: And nate showed his loyalties to me when he came to me immediately to tell me that he was confessing to devon and lily that he was planning on selling his shares. He never mentioned to them that I was the ceo that he was plotting with. And, to me, that counts for a lot, nicholas.

Nick: So, is that what this job is — a bribe to make sure he keeps his mouth shut?

Victoria: No! No. I trust nate. And the way that he handled the situation showed me that he’d do a great job of running newman media.

Nick: If all that you told him was that he could have a position at newman, let’s find something else for him, preferably an open position so we don’t have have to fire anyone.

Victoria: This is the job that I want him to have. I told you from the very beginning that sally was not right to run newman media. My initial instinct was to fire her.

Nick: But then you realized you were wrong.

Victoria: No. I was swayed by her passion and her enthusiasm, which was a huge mistake. She never had the background for this job.

Nick: Look, I am willing to talk about this later when we give it more time and thought, but I do not like this move, not now and not like this.

Victoria: Fine. We’ll table the discussion for now. But I want this to happen. Nate is a good man. He would be a great asset to have on board at newman media. You need to understand that, nicholas.

Nick: I do. But for now, we agree to do nothing.

Sally: So, how’s school going?

Connor: Okay.

Sally: Did you make any new friends?

Connor: Yeah, sure.

Sally: And what about hockey? Are you playing much?

Connor: Our season hasn’t started yet, but we’re practicing.

Sally: Yeah. I bet that’s keeping you busy.

Connor: Yeah.

Sally: [ Chuckles ] What about your mom? She busy, too? Was she in a rush whenever she dropped you off here by yourself?

Connor: No. I told her I saw dad in here so she wouldn’t worry and would just take off.

[ Sighs ]

Sally: Why would you do that?

Connor: I just wanted to get out of the car.

Sally: Well, you know, parents and kids get in arguments, right? It’s just temporary. They always make up.

Connor: This is different. Mom thinks were fine, but we’re not, not anymore.

Nate: [ Sighs ]

Devon: So, now it’s just the two of us. I’m gonna need you to help me understand what the hell is wrong with you and why you’d want to screw us over the way you did.

Nate: Mm. What’s the point in trying to explain things now? It’s over. I’m out of the company.

Devon: I’ll tell you exactly what the point is. This is your opportunity to finally explain everything to me and come clean. And since there’s no job on the table, there’s no reason for either of us to hold anything back, right?

Tucker: [ Chuckles ] That’s a nice surprise, an opportunity to sit down with jack abbott. How could I say no?

Jack: A dream for me, too.

Tucker: Actually, it’s kind of nice to have a one-on-one chat with you.

Jack: Well, I’m less than thrilled, but it’s a necessary evil.

Tucker: Yeah. And I appreciate your candor, as always. I know you’re not thrilled about my coming back to town and trying to reconnect with ashley.

Jack: No, but I am pleased with your lack of progress in that regard.

Tucker: So you must have enjoyed her storming out just now.

Jack: Well, I would have preferred she throw a drink in your face, but storming out we’ll have to settle for.

Tucker: Yeah, I know you’re protective of her, and i appreciate that. I admire it, actually. It’s exactly how I would feel in your situation. But my wanting to make amends with her is genuine ’cause, jack, my relationship with her is the best thing that ever happened to me.

Jack: Good luck with that.

Tucker: Alright, what would it take to convince you that I’m sincere?

Jack: Don’t even bother. I don’t know why you would want to convince me of anything anyway. This is between you and ashley. She’s made her feelings very clear. You need to respect that.

Tucker: You know what? You’re right. This is between me and her, no one else. But I hope you will keep an open mind in case she changes her mind about things.

[ Sighing ] Okay.> Is that all you wanted to talk about?

Jack: No. I’m just getting started.

Sharon: Hey!

Nick: Hey.

Sharon: Stranger. Hey, did you see those photos that faith posted last week from the michigan football game?

Nick: I did. It sure looks like she’s having fun. It really looks like she’s settled into the college lifestyle.

Sharon: I know. I’m so happy for her. So, what can I get you tonight?

Nick: Uh, just some tea.

Sharon: You got it. Is everything okay?

Nick: Uh, I don’t know if you’ve heard this or not. I’ve been seeing someone new.

Sharon: I hadn’T.

Nick: Yeah. Uh, with our history and, uh, everything you’ve gone through with rey, I wasn’t sure when to bring it up.

Sharon: Well, it doesn’t have to be awkward, nick. You know, I haven’t been ready to get back out there yet, but I’m glad that you’re feeling social again.

Nick: Yeah. It’s nothing serious. We’re just kind of taking it moment by moment.

Sharon: So, it’s still in the early, fun stage?

Nick: Yeah. It is fun. Usually.

Sharon: But the look on your face tells me it’s not especially fun, not tonight.

Nick: That would be right.

Sharon: You want to talk about it?

Nick: You should know who it is first. It’s sally spectra.

Adam: I can’t admit what you asked of me because you are wrong. Tonight has been all about you. There’s nothing about this night that has been less than sincere, sally. I mean, all that I ever wanted to do is see you succeed and achieve your dreams, even if i went about that in completely the wrong way.

Sally: Yeah, you drew me in for a little while, but all of this was completely the wrong way.

Adam: I see that now. I do. But I believe that you know everything that I said tonight about how much I still love you is true.

Sally: Adam —

Adam: Okay? But you are scared of the connection that you still feel for me because I screwed things up so badly. So you’re pushing me away. I get it. I would probably do the same thing. This is very real for me, okay? I’M… I’m putting my heart in your hands. And that is scary as hell.

[ Sighs ] But there’s nothing that i wouldn’t do for you. There’s no risk that I wouldn’t take to prove myself to you. Please, sally.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Adam: We can get past this.

Sally: I don’t think we can.

Adam: [ Sighs ]

Sally: So all I want from you right now… is to unlock that door so I can leave.

[ Sniffles ]

Jack: Why did you choose this particular time to show up in town?

Tucker: Yes, everyone’s so curious about my timing. Okay, so, what in particular are you wondering about?

Jack: Diane.

Tucker: What about diane?

Jack: Is it mere coincidence that soon after she resurfaced, you showed up in town?

Tucker: Oh, god, this again. I was hoping you of all people would have something a little more original up your sleeve.

Jack: Well, I’m sorry to disappoint you. Actually, I had no real interest in any of it, but something came to my attention that made me, well, want to ponder your timing more carefully.

Tucker: Oh, good. A new twist. I can’t wait to hear it.

Jack: There is a rumor —

Tucker: [ Scoffs ] A rumor, jack? Really? That’s where you’re going with this — gossip?

Jack: There is a rumor out there that you not only knew that diane was alive and in los angeles, but that you were in touch with her.

Sharon: Uh… well, I guess, um, I should be shocked, but when you mentioned sally’s name, something clicked with me. It just fell into place. Um, I had a conversation with sally here a while back. It was a deep conversation.

Nick: About adam?

Sharon: Well, yeah, it started out that way, but we covered a lot of ground, and i had told her, you know, whenever my life feels uncertain that i have a lot of people in my life I can count on. And she said, “like nick?” And [Chuckles] When she immediately said that, I was surprised, but I just filed it away for later, but now I can see that there was something forming way back then. And, you know, you hadn’t worked at newman for very long at that point, but she definitely spotted you.

Nick: Well, I guess I spotted her, too.

[ Chuckles ]

Sharon: Well, you know, she’s very noticeable.

Nick: She is. Um, I wasn’t planning on this happening. You know, we were just working together. Really like her attitude. I think she’s talented. We became friendly, and then it, uh — I don’t know — it just turned into something else.

Sharon: Well, I, of course, can understand why any woman would be drawn to you, nick.

[ Both laugh ] And sally — you know, she, uh — she’s an interesting person, you know? She’s — she’s smart and spirited, and those are qualities that, um, any man would like.

Nick: What are you not saying?

Sharon: What do you mean?

Nick: Well, I can tell, you know, with the sound of your voice that you’re holding something back.

Sharon: Okay. I can’t help wondering how much of this new relationship is really about sally and how much of it is actually about adam.

Adam: I definitely shouldn’t have brought up nick. That was a mistake. I’m sorry that that upset you. But if I hadn’t brought up the subject, it wouldn’t have been honest. I had to mention that you’re seeing my brother.

Sally: Yeah, but that’s not exactly what you said. You accused me of using him in some desperate attempt to get over you.

Adam: Those were not my words.

Sally: Maybe not exactly, but it was right there between the lines. What would have been more accurate is to admit that this whole scheme of yours tonight was because you can’t stand the fact that I’m with nick, even if you can’t bring yourself to say it out loud.

Adam: Of course I can’t stand it. It kills me to think about you with somebody else. That’s what happens when you love someone, sally.

Sally: But it’s more than that. It kills you because he’s your brother.

Adam: No. Okay? You could be with anybody, and I would hate it.

Sally: Okay, but would you have gone to all this trouble if it wasn’t nick? No. Because it is all about the competition for you. You have to beat someone for something to matter to you. That’s the only way anything has value to you — someone else has to want it, and you have to win.

Adam: No. You have value to me. You are important to me. I don’t care about anything else.

Sally: Just stop. Okay? I-I — [ Sighs ] I can’t do this. I-I’ve heard more than enough tonight. (Vo) no matter what type of severe asthma you have,…

Nick: I understand where you’re coming from, but this relationship is not like that. It’s got nothing to do with adam.

Sharon: Are you sure?

Nick: I’m absolutely sure.

Sharon: Because there is a pattern here, nick. You and adam tend to pursue the same women — chelsea, me, and now sally.

Nick: Well, obviously, we have excellent taste.

Sharon: [ Laughs ]

Nick: I promise you, it’s got nothing to do with him or any rivalry with adam. If anything, I am attracted to her in spite of her being adam’s ex. I didn’t want the headache of that entanglement. But it happened.

Sharon: And now it’s getting complicated.

Nick: Boy, is it ever. Adam regrets letting her go. And I’m trying to give her as much space and time that she needs to work things through with him.

Sharon: And let me guess. You want to protect her because adam tends to bring chaos to the women in his life and you don’t want to see anybody in pain.

Nick: Sally’s no damsel in distress. I, uh, want to support her any way that she needs, but she doesn’t need rescuing. She’s — she’s tough.

Sharon: If that’s really true, then I would say you’re more invested in this relationship than you’re admitting even to yourself.

Nick: Hmm.

Sharon: Boy, now I know why you looked so worried when you came in.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Don’t worry about me. No matter what happens, I’ll be fine.

Sharon: I know you will be.

Sally: Thank you.

Adam: Look, I really don’t want you to leave.

Sally: Look, I can’t do this.

Adam: Sally —

Sally: It hurts too much, adam. You need to stay away from now on. It’s best for both of us.

Adam: Sally, don’t go. Sally!

Tucker: Well, I know how it looks when I show up in town just a few months after diane. It’s bound to raise some eyebrows, and then people concoct all sorts of theories. That’s normal.

Jack: Forgive me. Maybe I missed it. I didn’t hear a “yes” or a “no” in there anywhere. Did you or did you not connect with diane in los angeles?

Tucker: Well, why are you pursuing this in the first place? This is so beneath you, jack. A man of your intellect and station. And do you have any evidence to substantiate this story of yours?

Jack: Aside from the obvious coincidences? No. There’s no evidence. It’s just conjecture. But it still doesn’t change the fact that you haven’t given me an answer.

Tucker: Well, let me ask you something. Why would I want anything to do with a woman who I absolutely detested when she allegedly died, who made me a murder suspect? Why would I want any contact with a woman like that?

Jack: Why, indeed? Yeah. I mean, there’s no love lost between you.

Tucker: Mm.

Jack: But maybe the more revealing question is, why are you still dancing around the subject?

Tucker: ‘Cause I just find the whole thing pointless. I could deny it all day and all night. You’re gonna believe whatever the hell you want to believe. I know the human mind works.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Diane: Hello, jack. Tucker.

Tucker: There she is, in the flesh.

Diane: [ Scoffs ] The two of you dining together? I — I can’t imagine how you agreed to this.

Jack: Actually, we were just talking about you.

Diane: Me?

Jack: Yeah. Here. Have a seat. Join us.

Jack: I was just sharing with tucker that there’s a rumor out there that the two of you crossed paths in los angeles.

Diane: Gossip, jack? Really?

Tucker: Exactly what I said.

Jack: Well, it’s just speculation at this point, but tucker hasn’t denied it, so I am most interested in what you think about the whole thing.

Diane: Are you serious?

Tucker: Oh, he’s dead serious.

Diane: How can you even ask me that?

Jack: I’m just trying to get some answers, if only to put the whole matter to bed.

Diane: You know, I am so tired of some people constantly trying to dig up dirt on me. They’re trying to undermine me as a way to get me out of town. But you?

Jack: I meant no harm. I’m just trying to find the truth.

Diane: And you think that tucker showing up in genoa city out of the blue means that we’re connected somehow?

Jack: No, I didn’t say that. I asked what your thoughts were.

Diane: Well, you know how surprised I was to see him and how furious I was that he interrupted kyle and summer’s big day.

Jack: Yeah, you seemed genuinely upset.

Diane: And I told you then that I had a lot of questions about why he was back.

Jack: Yeah, you did. And you still haven’t denied it, either…

Diane: [ Scoffs ]

Jack: …Just like tucker.

Tucker: Are you two not on friendly terms? ‘Cause I’m sensing tension here.

Jack: No, there’s no tension.

Tucker: Well, that’s good ’cause you’re working together, right? You’ve bonded over your son and your grandson —

Diane: Just stop. Jack, I am telling you that until that man dropped out of a helicopter into your backyard, i had not seen him since the night of my death. And that is the truth. And I — I hope that my word is good enough for you.

Jack: I guess it’ll have to be.

Jack: Well, I better get home.

Diane: Will I see you tomorrow?

Jack: Tomorrow. Yeah. Good night.

Diane: Night.

Tucker: Night.

Diane: [ Scoffs ]

Chloe: Hallelujah! You’re here!

Sally: What’s going on?

Chloe: Well, you know, nick came looking for you after you left, and that seemed odd because you were supposed to be meeting him. So he and I — well, mostly me — put together that the dinner invitation must have come from adam.

Sally: Yep. He tricked me. I thought I was showing up for a romantic night with nick, and adam was there.

Chloe: Well, I was freaking out. You know, I’ve been down this path with adam and his little schemes, and I was worried about you. But nick was a rock. He said that whatever his brother was up to, that he knew that you could handle it. And he also thought that maybe it would be good for you and adam to talk things through. Did you read him the riot act for tricking you like that?

Sally: [ Sighs ] I did…at first. And then I realized that adam and I still had some things to sort through. It wasn’t completely adversarial.

Chloe: What was it then?

Sally: It was a real conversation. You know, we reminisced, and adam was thoughtful and attentive. It was good.

Chloe: Oh, crap.

Sally: I know, but I feel like I owe him an apology.

Chloe: I’m sure he would appreciate that.

Sally: Alright, I am gonna head home. I will see you tomorrow.

[ Cellphone pings ]

Jack: Hey. Reading anything good?

Traci: Hey. Yeah. This is one of my friend’s novels. It’s not published yet, and she is hoping for a promotional blurb.

Jack: How is it?

Traci: Well, it’s good enough for a promotional blurb.

[ Chuckles ]

Jack: Ashley home yet?

Traci: [ Sighs ] Yeah. Um, the door to her bedroom was closed when I got here earlier. I think she’s turned in for the night.

Jack: Yeah, makes sense to me. She’s had a pretty long day.

Traci: Yeah, traveling takes it out of me, too.

[ Sighs ] Jack, I’m a little worried about ashley.

Jack: Why?

Traci: We were talking about tucker earlier. Uh, she claims that she is immune to his charms, but I’m not exactly sure about that. It was not too long ago she was really, really in love with him.

Jack: I had the same worries about her. I am gonna take ashley at her word. She is adamant she has no interest in rekindling anything with tucker. Besides, she seems a lot more focused on trying to get to the truth about whether diane and tucker met up in L.A.

Traci: Yes. You know, she she mentioned that to me, too. I was completely stunned. Where does a theory like that come from?

Jack: Well, for starters, most of the speculation circles around the extravagant gift that tucker gave to kyle and summer.

Traci: The bentley. What does a bentley have to do with diane?

Jack: You know what? I think I’m gonna make us a couple of drinks, and then i will tell you everything that i know.

Tucker: For what it’s worth, I found your declaration to be very convincing.

Diane: I’m in no mood, tucker.

Tucker: You looked jack right in the eye and lied to him about having no contact with me.

[ Inhales sharply ] It was very bold.

Diane: Stop it. Jack matters to me. And I’ve built a life here, and that matters to me.

Tucker: What about me, diane? Are you saying I don’t matter to you?

Diane: What just happened with jack wasn’t funny. And you’re treating everyone’s suspicions like they’re some kind of joke.

Tucker: I just don’t think they’re any real threat.

Diane: [ Scoffs ]

Tucker: Not right now, anyway. Although I would like to know where this whole thing started.

Diane: Oh, nikki and phyllis, of course. I have no doubt about it. And nikki was just in L.A., And I’m sure she was trying to dig up some dirt on me. She just loves taunting me about trying to ship me out of town.

Tucker: Yeah, I witnessed some of that yesterday.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Tucker: But jack said he had no evidence at all to back up any of his allegation.

Diane: Well, that’s probably true — because if either of those two harpies had one shred of evidence against me, they would have used it as ammunition already. And jack probably wouldn’t have held back, either.

Tucker: Okay. There you go. There’s no need to get so worked up.

Diane: [ Scoffs ]

Tucker: Hey. Take a deep breath. Take a deep breath. Okay? We can do this. We can handle all these suspicions. We can answer people’s questions with grace and élan. We just need to keep our cool, baby.

Diane: Tucker, there is no “we” anymore. I am going to put as much distance as I can between you and me.

Tucker: [ Laughing ] Well, that’s not your call, is it?

Diane: Jack told me that ashley is back.

Tucker: Yes, she is.

Diane: Yeah, and she agreed to meet with you.

Tucker: Yeah, she did.

Diane: Well, you told me that I didn’t have to keep tabs on the abbotts once you had the information about ashley’s return. So I believe our agreement has concluded.

Tucker: Oh, my dear diane. I have to respectfully disagree. Hey! It’s me! Your dry skin!

Diane: What are you talking about? We had a deal.

Tucker: Well, I think you’re forgetting the terms of the deal. You were supposed to inform me the minute ashley got back from paris. You did not.

Diane: [ Scoffs ]

Tucker: I learned ashley was home from ashley. She contacted me directly. So, how did you uphold your end of the deal?

Diane: I hadn’t even seen jack at that point. How would I have known that ashley was back? What, I’m not — I’m not psychic.

Tucker: That was our arrangement.

Diane: Yeah, well, I would have told you the moment she got back, but she beat me to the punch. I mean, and who would have guessed that ashley would be willing to contact you?

Tucker: If I hire a guy to mow my lawn and before he shows up, a goat wanders on my property and eats all the grass, I don’t pay the guy, do I? The deal is off.

Diane: Oh, my god, that is an entirely different situation.

Tucker: The principles are the same.

Diane: Look, tucker, I did what you asked.

Tucker: No, you didn’T. There is no argument to be made. You are not off the hook until I say you’re off the hook. Do you understand me? You are gonna do exactly what i say. I still need you for things.

[ Cellphone pings ]

Diane: I-I don’t know what else you want me to do.

Tucker: Yeah, well, I’ll be in touch with you.

Diane: [ Scoffs ]

[ Sighs ]

Traci: Thank you. So, nikki found out that diane was being chauffeured in a bentley all over los angeles.

Jack: Accompanied by a mystery man who nikki assumes was tucker.

Traci: You know, I guess it could be a coincidence. There are plenty of bentleys in the world, and diane could have gotten herself involved with any number of men who could afford to have owned one in los angeles. And she and tucker could have arrived a few months apart here in genoa city without being in cahoots. But that’s really the issue, isn’t it?

Jack: The cahoots part. Yeah, that’s my concern.

Traci: What do you intend to do about it?

Jack: I just left sitting with tucker and diane at society.

Traci: Really? What did they have to say for themselves?

Jack: Well, tucker equivocated. That’s his natural reflex. Diane looked me right in the eye and said they had no connection. I didn’t even mention what i knew about the car.

Traci: Do you think her answer would have been different if you had mentioned it?

Jack: I — I don’t know. I just wanted to see what their reaction might be to the initial allegation that they had met up in L.A.

Traci: Jack, you are so smart. And you didn’t interfere with nikki’s investigation in case she’s on to something.

Jack: Boy, she sure has ashley convinced. And, of course, phyllis is gonna help in any way she can.

Traci: [ Chuckles ] Yeah. So, diane looked you right in the eye and denied there was any connection. I guess the question is, do you believe her?

Jack: [ Sighs ]

Nick: How was your night?

Sally: Not what I expected. I talked to chloe, and she told me that you two figured out that adam set me up for a romantic dinner on the roof, and i thought I was meeting you.

Nick: Yeah, I know.

Sally: Yeah, I was pretty furious with him.

Nick: I bet. You were gone for quite a while. You must have stuck around.

Sally: Yeah, I decided to hear him out. It was pretty nice up there. It was peaceful. He made a heartfelt pitch for one more chance.

Nick: Mm. Yeah. I thought that’s what he was up to.

Sally: Yeah, he’s much more transparent than he thinks.

Nick: Last time I talked to him, he told me he was still in love with you. I’m assuming he told you the same thing.

Sally: Yeah.

Nick: How’d it make you feel?

Sally: Confused.

Tucker: Hey. What’s so urgent?

Audra: There’s been a big development regarding the chancellor-winters ipo.

Tucker: Yeah, I know. I just talked to devon. He accused me of going after the company.

Audra: Well…

Tucker: Yeah, I know. I know, but for a moment i thought maybe you gave away the secret.

Audra: Really? That’s how little faith you had in me?

Tucker: Oh, it was a fleeting moment.

Audra: I should hope so. You have no reason to doubt my loyalty.

Tucker: I know.

Audra: Too bad devon and lily can’t say the same about their cousin nate.

Tucker: Is nate the one giving away inside information?

Audra: He’s the one.

Tucker: Oh, man. No wonder devon was so emotional earlier. Getting betrayed by someone close to you like that — that is tough.

Audra: He and lily and billy were all blindsided. They couldn’t believe nate sold them out. I observed some tension between devon and nate, but nothing that suggested anything of this magnitude.

Tucker: I almost feel bad for them.

Audra: Don’T. Because nate’s betrayal is gonna have a major impact on your plans.

Adam: What are you doing back here?

Sally: I want clarification.

Adam: Regarding what?

Sally: Do you still love me as much as you say you do?

Adam: [ Sighs ] Yes. More. Okay? These last few years have felt empty. And then I found you. And everything was so right. You filled that void. I felt complete when I was with you. Everything… we fit together perfectly, sally.

Sally: Then why did you end things? Give me the real reason this time.

Adam: I was… I was scared.

Nick: Leave her alone.

Adam: Wait a minute.

Nick: No. You’re dangerous, and you destroy everything you touch. That’s not gonna happen to sally ’cause I won’t let it.

Adam: [ Gasps ]

[ Exhales heavily ]

[ Breathing heavily ]

Sally: I have to admit that some of what adam said resonated with me. We had something special, really special, before he blew it up. But, I mean, as much as he says he cares about me, he still used trickery to get me on the roof. Everything with him is deception. How can I ever trust him?

[ Sighs ] And I feel weird talking with you about it ’cause [Sighs]… I can’t get you out of my head.

Nick: It’s getting messy, isn’t it? I think that’s the last thing either one of us wanted. The longer this goes on, I think we realize we should probably just… pull the plug and, uh… go our separate ways… before this gets out of hand.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Yeah. Yeah, you’re — you’re probably right — ’cause this isn’t gonna get any less complicated.

Sally: Yeah, maybe we should just walk away.

Traci: Jack, I’m so sorry about all of this. But, you know, right now it’s all just speculation. It really could be a coincidence. I’m a firm believer in innocent until proven guilty. So maybe you could just go on like you have been, but with your eyes open just a little bit wider. Maybe there’s nothing to nikki and ashley’s suspicions and the situation between you and diane and kyle doesn’t have to change.

Jack: Sound, sage, reasoned advice from my baby sister. I’ve come to expect nothing less from you. Thank you.

Traci: You’re welcome. And if there is something to all of this, eventually it will come out. The truth always does.

Audra: Devon and lily are gonna postpone the ipo while they sort things out.

Tucker: Oh, that’s to be expected, I suppose. We’ll just have to be patient. You’ll keep me apprized, of course.

Audra: Of course. But there’s a larger problem than the delay.

Tucker: Oh, let me guess. Some mysterious ceo who’s as interested in taking over chancellor-winters as I am.

Audra: That’s right. Any thoughts on the identity of the interested party?

Tucker: Mm. Many. But one name keeps coming to the surface — victoria newman.

Audra: That would be a reach, I think.

Tucker: I don’t think so because katherine — when she died, she left the company to victor. So, there’s history there. Victoria would know that and try to honor it.

Audra: In theory, yes, okay? But newman has spent so much capital trying to expand recently. I doubt they have the liquidity for a move like that.

Tucker: Yes, maybe you’re right. Maybe there are other suitors, but none I find as intriguing as victoria. She is a fighter.

[ Chuckles ] She’s a competitor. I wonder if she’s as formidable an opponent as her father.

Audra: Sounds like you’re about to find out.

Elena: So, you confessed everything because of me?

Nate: I was trying to do the right thing. I thought it would be a relief to stop keeping this secret. But in all honesty, uh… yeah, I’m just lost. I knew that being the chief of surgery wasn’t the right job for me, so I was excited to move over to chancellor-winters. I had big plans for my future and the future of the company. Then, in one fell swoop, it all came tumbling down after I told everyone what I did. Devon fired me.

Elena: I’m sorry.

Nate: No, it’s okay because I gave it all up for you. Elena, you’re worth it.

Elena: I am sure that you’re gonna figure out your next step. And I have no doubt that everything will work out for you.

Nate: You mean for us.

Elena: Nate, there is no us anymore.

Jack: Oh, hi there. May I join you?

Ashley: I’m meeting tucker.

Jack: Tucker?

Ashley: We’re having dinner.

Jack: How did that happen? More importantly, why?

Ashley: He showed up at jabot and he wouldn’t stop bugging me until I agreed to meet with him. I figured I would just reiterate everything I’ve been telling him all along — there’s no chance for us.

Jack: I wish you didn’t even have to give him the time of day, but I understand your intent. So, where is he?

Ashley: Well, that’s the kicker. I think the bastard stood me up.

Tucker: I was literally walking out the door when you knocked.

Devon: Well, make time for me ’cause I’m gonna ask you one question, and I want a straight, honest answer out of you.

Tucker: Of course.

Devon: Did you come back to genoa city to go after chancellor-winters?

Tucker: Where did you get that idea? And — and how could you believe that I would actually do such a thing? Why would I ever do anything that might negatively affect my own son?

Devon: I don’t know why you would, but I don’t need you to answer my question with more questions. I need you to say yes or no. ‘Cause I just found out there’s another ceo in town who’s been receiving inside information that could benefit them in a takeover. And I want to know, is that person you?

Nick: I didn’t set up a dinner with sally tonight.

Chloe: You didn’t?

Nick: No. Why would you or she think i did?

Chloe: Well, someone invited her, and she’s at the grand phoenix rooftop right now meeting that person.

Chloe: Ohh, you know, I-i don’t know what is happening, but I don’t have a very good feeling about this.

Nick: Let’s — let’s calm down. I’m sure it’s a misunderstanding.

Chloe: Well, I’m not sure how that could be. Because sally gets this fancy invitation delivered by a courier, and who would go to those lengths just to mislead her?

Both: Adam.

Sally: You sent the invitation?

Adam: I, um, debated inviting you directly, but I knew that you wouldn’t come.

Sally: Yeah, you’re right about that.

Adam: And that is totally understandable, okay? I know how you feel, and I just wanted —

Sally: No, no, no. I’m gonna stop you right there. You don’t know how I feel.

Adam: I was just hoping that we could spend a little time together without any interruptions or distractions. I just want to sit down and talk, just the two of us, okay? Have an open and honest discussion.

Sally: Are you serious right now? Look what you did to lure me here. This is so like you. Everything with you is a manipulation. You wouldn’t know honesty if it smacked you in the face.

Adam: Yes, I know that I have done some duplicitous things, but if you will just let me explain, you will know that I am telling you the truth.

Sally: [ Scoffs ]

[ Doorknob rattles ] Open the door, adam.

Adam: Look, I am not forcing you to stay.

Sally: Really? ‘Cause it looks like you are. Open the door, or I am gonna call the cops and tell them that my crazy desperate ex tried to kidnap me.

Sally: Lead people? That is quite the euphemism. You manipulate them.

Adam: Alright. I will admit that. But, sally, look at me, okay? I’m stripping away any swagger or bluster that I may usually put on. I’m swallowing any pride that might get in my way. It’s just you and me here. And I promise you, all I’m asking for is a conversation.

Sally: We could have talked anywhere. Why all the bells and whistles?

Adam: I didn’t want to bear my soul at the coffee house. Just — I wanted us to have some privacy without the threat of interruption from work, or whatever. I-I still have so much to say to you. And I understand if you don’t want to hear it, but I’m hoping that you will give me one last chance to plead my case. Again, obviously, you can go if that’s what you want.

Sally: [ Sighs ] I-I’m not sure what I want.

Nate: Wait, wait, wait. Wh-what do you mean, there’s no more us? I did what I did for us.

Elena: I didn’t ask you to do that. I didn’t ask you to change your plans for us.

Nate: Yes, you did. You said you didn’t want to be with a man who allowed his ambition to drive his decision making. So I proved to you that I cared about more than just power — in a big way that blew up my career. I could have quietly pulled the plug on the ipo thing, but i owned up to everything. Isn’t that what you wanted?

Elena: Nate, I’m glad that you told everyone the truth. And I think in time you will be glad, too. But I didn’t want you to do all of this in a way to save our relationship. I wanted you to do it because it was the right thing to do for yourself. Because, with or without me, betraying your family for a business deal is a mistake.

[ Chuckles ] You still don’t think what you’re doing is wrong, do you?

Nate: I get that you see it that way.

Elena: Oh, in other words, you don’t actually see what the problem is. I am sorry to say this, nate, but…I don’t recognize you anymore. You are not the man that I fell in love with. Maybe you’re just a product of your circumstances. Being a doctor, saving people. I admired dr. Hastings.

Nate: Dr. Hastings ceased to exist the night devon sucker-punched me.

Elena: And I own my part in that. But the bottom line is, you’re right. The man you were is gone, maybe forever. And I don’t think it’s in my best interest to stick around to find out. For people who are a little intense about hydration.

Nate: So, you’re still planning to leave?

Elena: Nate, I am not going to put my life on hold to sit around and wait to see if the man that I love is going to disappoint me.

Nate: Disappoint you again, you mean. I don’t know how to stop doing that because nothing I do seems to please you.

Elena: I’m just saying I am going to take that interview.

Nate: Understood. You won’t pump the brakes on your professional ambition to save our relationship, but you forced me to.

Elena: I didn’t force you to do anything. I made a decision to pursue a career opportunity, just like you made a decision to put on a show to try to convince me to change my mind. That was your choice.

Nate: And your choice was to come all the way over to chancellor-winters and interrupt a meeting to announce you were leaving? But you weren’t forcing my hand.

Elena: That was not my intention.

Nate: Of course it was. Why else would you show up the way you did? But I won’t force you to admit it. It was my choice to confess because I thought I was making the choice for both of us. You leaving genoa city — that is all about you and you alone.

Tucker: Uh, I am not the ceo you’re talking about. But it does make me wonder what’s going on at chancellor-winters that would even make it possible for another ceo to take over. Are there significant changes happening at the company?

Devon: Well, you know there’s changes happening at the company ’cause we just merged.

Tucker: Right.

Devon: We’re a brand-new company, essentially. So, yeah, of course, there’s a lot of things still falling into place.

Tucker: Okay. Uh, well, it’s obvious you’re flying blind as to who this person is. I’d like to try to protect you in any way I can, and I have the resources to help. So, why don’t you let me? What can you tell me about this leak? ‘Cause I could put my people on it and uncover whoever and whatever’s at play here.

Devon: No, no, ’cause we have our own people to do that kind of thing. And what information do you imagine you’d find out about our company since you’re not a part of it?

Tucker: [ Chuckling ] Well, I’ve been around the block a few times. Generally, if there’s information to be had, there’s a way to uncover it.

Devon: Right. Well, thank you, but we’re all set.

Tucker: Alright. I just want to help. At the very least, you know, you need to identify and oust this leaker, try to control whatever damage they did to whatever extent you can.

Devon: Yeah, well, that leak has been plugged.

Tucker: Has it? You don’t seem that sure, son. You just say the word. I’ll be right there for you.

Chloe: Why aren’t you more upset about this?

Nick: I’m not surprised adam would do this. I’ve come to expect it from my brother.

Chloe: Well, at the very least, he’s getting sally alone to try to win her back. So I think you should go over there and stop him before he tries to sink his hooks into her. Okay. Fine. I’ll do it.

Nick: No. Chloe, stop. Please don’t do that.

Chloe: Why not? Are you gonna march over there and put an end to this little rendezvous?

Nick: I don’t think either one of us should interfere. I know sally can take care of herself. And who knows? Maybe this is what adam and sally need to either get closure or to…reconnect.

Sally: Fine. Fine. I will have dinner with you.

Adam: Thank you. Okay? I promise you will not regret it.

Sally: I have heard that before.

Adam: Well…

Sally: [ Sighs ] This is…kind of nice.

Adam: Yeah.

Sally: So, where do we start?

Adam: Uh…with appetizers?

Sally: Cute. [ Chuckles ] But I meant, like, I feel like we should just get to it… ’cause [Scoffs] I… might leave here in the next five minutes because I don’t — I don’t know if I’m gonna believe anything that you have to say and I really don’t know if I can ever let you back in.

Adam: Okay. That is fair. I understand that your guard’s up. I know it’s hard to just trust someone again. But I’m hoping that, deep down, you can feel our connection and you know that it is honest. Okay, sally? You see me. You know me. I have shared more with you in a short amount of time than I have ever felt comfortable sharing with anyone. And I think you feel the same way.

Sally: I did. At one point.

Adam: Are you really that attached to someone else so soon? Was it really that easy for you to move on? Some days, it felt like asthma was holding me back.

Sally: I really don’t know how to answer that question. And it actually doesn’t even matter ’cause this isn’t about my feelings for anyone else. I could be seeing any and every other guy in genoa city, and it would have no bearing on the way that I feel about you. The only person that has the power to affect the way that i feel about you is you. You made me feel used, manipulated, and lied to. And I thought we had something special.

Adam: Sally, we did have something special.

Sally: Look, if you want this conversation to be open and honest, it also has to be about accepting that there may be no going back after everything that happened.

Adam: Okay. I accept that. But I am going to prove you wrong.

Chloe: Sally and adam do not need to reconnect, not now or ever.

Nick: Well, I, of course, agree with you. But it is her call.

Chloe: Everything about that relationship is toxic. And sally needs distance and time to heal. And if you’re okay with that, then great, but if this involves some sort of game about you getting back at your brother — let me rephrase that. If you break sally’s heart, I’ll break your legs. Got it?

Nick: I got it. You are a good friend to sally. I’m glad she has you. I don’t know where things stand with us. I would like to find out, but it will be at a pace that sally is comfortable with.

Chloe: You realize you may not get that chance, right? Things might not be going anywhere if adam can successfully work his voodoo on her.

Jack: But if you have no intention of letting him in, why go through with all of this? Wouldn’t it be easier just to ice him out entirely?

Ashley: I have another reason to want to meet with him, jack. I spoke with you about it earlier. Something fishy’s going on with tucker, okay? It has nothing to do with me or his desire to reconnect with his family. I’m more convinced than ever that he had some kind of involvement with diane while she was living in los angeles.

Jack: So, you’re going to use his contrition to get information out of him.

Devon: I need you to know that all this probing and questioning into what’s going on at the company isn’t making me feel very comfortable right now, okay?

Tucker: I’m just concerned for you.

Devon: I — I understand that, but you need to understand that I’m still just taking your word that you’re not the ceo who’s getting information, alright? And I’m not gonna be pulled or pushed into any corners.

Tucker: I’m — [ Chuckles ] I’m sorry. D-did I say or do something to offend you?

Devon: No, you didn’T. It’s me. It’S… this is a lot. It’s a lot to process, finding out something like this.

Tucker: Sure.

Devon: It’s got me looking at everybody crazy. I’m sure you can understand that. I appreciate you wanting to help me, but I’m gonna take care of this myself — ’cause personal issues are one thing, business is a different thing. I know you understand that as a businessman.

Tucker: I do. I do.

Devon: Good.

Tucker: Yes, I’m a businessman, but I’m also your father. And these days, you know what being a father means.

Elena: Maybe I am being selfish going to baltimore. But you’ve been going through so many changes. And as much as I’d like to be there by your side, I think this is something that you need to do alone.

Nate: I thought our relationship meant more to you than this.

Elena: It used to mean everything. But it has been excruciating watching you struggle through this moral dilemma. And I have tried to support you in the best way that I could, but I think I just need to realize that the man that I’ve been holding on to is not the man who’s standing in front of me.

Nate: Hey… sit. I’m sorry that things have gotten so contentious between us.

[ Sighs ] I don’t know how we got here. But I still believe we can fix this.

Elena: I can’t see how.

Nate: We can get out of this place we’re in if we do it together because we are stronger united than we are apart. Because I’m still the same man who you fell in love with, the man who wants… nothing more…

[ Breathes deeply ] …Than for you to come back home.

Elena: [ Voice breaking ] I don’t know, nate.

Nate: Remember us. Huh? Remember us. You’re all I have. Don’t go. Please stay.

Elena: [ Gasps ] So, you’re 45.

Nate: I know who I am.

Elena: I don’t think you do. Because you still don’t understand that everything that’s happened to you is a direct result of your choices. And it doesn’t matter how many times I tell you. What matters is that you know that what you did was wrong. I tried to talk through this with you. I wanted to work on our relationship. Why do you think I went on board with the podcast for chancellor-winters? It was because I wanted to be closer to you.

Nate: I know that. I was looking forward to working side by side again, collaborating as a team like we used to.

Elena: Nate, it all sounds good in theory. But we haven’t been a team in a long time. And I just don’t see a future with you anymore.

Jack: What makes you think that diane and tucker were in cahoots in L.A.? And, frankly, what business is it of yours what diane did with her time there?

Ashley: It’s my business because she’s involved with my family — you, kyle, and harrison. And I’m just as protective of you as you are of me, whether you like it or not.

Jack: Boy, digging up dirt on diane seems to be genoa city’s new favorite pastime. So, what have you found out?

Ashley: Nikki told me something she found out when she was in los angeles last week. Apparently, diane was seen in the company of a very wealthy, bentley-driving gentleman while she was living there.

Jack: Diane was gone for years. She has every right to be involved with anyone she wants to, including someone of means.

Ashley: You don’t think it’s a little odd that tucker shows up in genoa city with the same make and model bentley as a gift for diane’s son?

Tucker: It was also a gift for phyllis’s daughter. Does that make phyllis part of tucker’s conspiracy? I’m just saying this is all conjecture on your part. There’s no real evidence here. You and nikki are working very hard to ruin someone’s life.

Ashley: Wow. How deep has diane gotten under your skin?

Jack: [ Sighs ]

Sally: Yeah, well [Sighs] That makes two of us. I miss our friendship, too. You saw things in me that no one else ever did.

Adam: No, I could see how amazing you were from the moment we met, long before we started seeing each other, before I saw you through a lens of love. Now I can’t see you through anything else.

Sally: Yeah, well… that was before.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Yep. Before I blew everything up with a series of very foolish mistakes.

[ Sighs ] Look, I’m not using this as an excuse, but I’ve gotten pretty used to having nobody to trust. And when I finally realized that I finally found someone that i could, I was filled, sally, with this overbearing desire to protect you. I mean, not only from the backlash that I’m sure was gonna come from my family, but from the damage that I’ve historically done to the people who care about me. And [Sighs] Once I finally realized the terrible mistake that I had made, all I wanted to do was to keep you safe. So I pushed you as far away as possible. I chased you away and hurt you in ways that I have spent long nights regretting. It’s in ways that I can never take back. And I want you to know that I am truly, deeply sorry for lying to you, for hurting you… and for loving you.

Sally: Loving me?

Adam: If I never would have fallen in love with you, we wouldn’t be where we are now, sally. Okay, I need you to know, as much as I treasure the memories of all the joyous times we spent together, I would have given it all up if it meant that I never caused you a moment of pain.

Nick: Yes, I, uh — I would like to, uh, see where our friendship goes, um, but I would be an idiot to ignore the fact that the adam and sally chapter isn’t completely closed.

Chloe: Well, it should be. Slammed shut.

Nick: Maybe. But I’ve heard from both adam and sally. There are conflicting feelings from both sides, and those are feelings that sally needs to work through before we go any further. Because one thing I am not on the fence about is — if we’re going to take our relationship to another level, she’s got to be completely sure that she wants to be with just me.

Chloe: Yeah, I get that. You don’t want to be involved with someone who’s still hung up on someone else. But I think you’re underestimating how difficult a time sally’s had letting go of adam and how hard adam fights for something he wants.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Yeah, possibly. But maybe you’re not giving sally enough credit for how well she can assert or stand up for herself. Or maybe you’re giving adam too much credit for how strong his hold is on her.

Sally: Here’s to great conversations.

Adam: To great friendships.

Sally: To honesty and transparency.

Adam: I know you think i can’t understand what this has been like for you and I don’t get what you’re struggling with, but I think I do.

Sally: You’ve been doing a lot of thinking, huh? Please enlighten me, oh, wise one.

Adam: I know you may think you have feelings for nick, but he’s just a way to help you forget what you and I have.

Sally: So, this is about nick.

Adam: No. It’s — no, it’s not. What — what I meant to say is —

Sally: No, I know — I know what you meant because you — you — you said it. You opened your mouth. The words came out. So, thank you for being honest. I mean, everybody knows your history with your brother. I mean, is this really even about me, or is this just about beating nick? He can get some good job at newman, but you could stop him from getting me? Did you mean anything that you just said? Or is this some power move to best nick and win me back like some kind of prize?

Jack: Diane has not gotten under my skin. I’m just not willing to accept that she and tucker have some kind of partnership in who knows what because they both happened to live in L.A. And had a passing acquaintance with bentleys. It’s too big a stretch. And how does that connect them? And to what end?

Ashley: I don’t know, but nikki and I are gonna find out.

Jack: I don’t like where this is going. You two are trying to ruin diane.

Ashley: You can’t ruin somebody if they haven’t done anything wrong, right?

Jack: You could do a lot of damage along the way. My principal concern is kyle. He finally has a decent relationship with his mother. I’m not gonna let that implode because of unproven accusations. You said you and I have the same thing in mind. We want to protect our family. Fine. I’m telling you — don’t do anything to hurt my son.

Devon: I’m gonna take off. And I apologize for just barging the way I did, okay?

Tucker: No, no, no. Listen. You’re always welcome here. Always. Next time, bring dominic, damn it. I want to meet my grandson.

Devon: Since you say you understand how personal fatherhood is to me these days, I want your word as a father and as a grandfather now that you’re telling me the truth about chancellor-winters.

Tucker: You have my word. I would never make any kind of business play that might harm you or jeopardize our relationship in any way.

Devon: Alright.

[ Door closes ] (Vo) at the tidy cats innovation lab.

Elena: I made up my mind. I’m going to baltimore. I think it’s the best thing for me right now. And even if I don’t get the job, I think I need to be alone for a bit. You probably should be, too.

Nate: Got it.

Elena: I will call you when i get back into town, and we can arrange for me to get my stuff. I’ll probably do it while you’re at work.

Nate: I won’t be at work. I was fired, remember?

Elena: Not because of me.

[ Sighs ]

[ Door closes ]

Nate: [ Sighs heavily ] Victoria, it’s nate. We need to meet. There’s been a development, and, um, it’s not good.

Ashley: I would never do anything to hurt kyle. You know that.

Jack: I am just telling you to slow down. You are jumping from one conclusion to another.

Ashley: I — let’s talk about this little bit later, okay?

Tucker: Hey. Sorry I’m late. My sincere apologies. There was an emergency with devon, and I couldn’t get away.

Ashley: Oh. Is dominic okay?

Tucker: Oh, no, it had nothing to do with him.

Ashley: Oh. Thank goodness. Uh, actually, I think you did us both a favor by being late. Um, this dinner would have been a massive waste of time because I wasn’t gonna give you the benefit of the doubt, tucker. I was just gonna give you enough rope to hang yourself. And you gave me enough time to realize that I didn’t want to stoop to that kind of childish behavior, so —

Tucker: Wait a minute. Wait. Wait. Wait. Please.

Ashley: No. I’m sure I’ll see you around.

Jack: Does this mean you’re letting go of what we discussed earlier?

Ashley: Not a chance. I’ll see you later, boys.

Tucker: She’s something else, isn’t she?

Jack: She’s out of your league.

Tucker: [ Chuckles ] Always nice to see you, jack.

Adam: Look, I want a time machine to go back five minutes to take back what I said, okay? This has nothing to do with nick. This is about me and you. But I can’t pretend not to know that you’re involved with somebody else. I mean, both of you have admitted it to me, sally, and i can’t not address the elephant in the room — that you’ve moved on.

Lily: Nate. What’s wrong?

Nate: Um… devon, lily, uh… there’s something I need to say to you two — in private.

Billy: Can it wait?

Nate: No.

Billy: Look, nate, we got some pretty, uh, pressing business matters to take care of, things in the pipeline that are time-sensitive.

Nate: This directly impacts what we’re all doing here.

Audra: The ipo?

Nate: Among other things.

Lily: Okay. Um, can you two actually just give us a minute, please?

Devon: No, hang on a second. Hang on a second. Why do they have to leave?

Nate: You know what? You’re right. Billy and audra can stay. They’ll find out the truth soon enough. In fact, I want you to all hear it from me.

Lily: The truth about what?

[ Knock on door ]

Tucker: Hey. Good time? Bad time? Sure as hell been a long time.

Adam: So it has. Come on in.

Tucker: Thank you.

Adam: I, uh, heard about your dramatic return, the little stunt with the helicopter.

Tucker: Oh, yeah, the stunt. Well, I was late for the ceremony, you know, and wouldn’t want to be thought of as rude. You know how the righteous people in this town like to cluck their tongues.

Adam: Yeah, I think you just like being unpredictable.

Tucker: Ah, look who’s talking. Choosing to work here instead of at newman. Victor must have had an apoplectic fit.

Adam: I, uh, assume you’re here to see jack, but unfortunately he’s in a meeting.

Tucker: Yeah, I did stop by to say hi to him, but I’m actually on my way down to the lab.

Adam: What for?

Tucker: To see ashley.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] And what do you think that’ll accomplish?

Ashley: Hey.

Traci: Hi.

Ashley: Where’d you get that?

Traci: Oh, harrison was in here playing earlier, and he found it in the trash.

Ashley: Oh. That’s because I put it there.

Traci: It looks japanese.

Ashley: It’s from a tea ceremony that I went to with tucker a long time ago. Um, I think when he gave it to me he was trying to make an impression, except I, um — I wasn’t very impressed.

Traci: Apparently not.

Ashley: Do you want it? ‘Cause I don’t care what happens to it.

Traci: [ Sighs ] So, I imagine running into tucker again after all these years has brought up some memories.

Ashley: Oh, I think that’s what he was hoping.

Traci: Well, do you have a sense for the truth of his story? I mean, do you think he really is a changed man after his brush with death?

Lily: Why would you do something like that?

Devon: This is about you and me, isn’t it?

Ashley: Huh. Has tucker changed? As in, is he capable of having an epiphany about anything ever?

[ Both laugh ]

Traci: I will take that as a “no.”

Ashley: Well, he’s a narcissist, right? I mean, look at the way he disrupted kyle and summer’s vow renewal ceremony. It was so incredibly obnoxious. And I don’t believe he had an awakening after he crashed his fancy car and then he went to an ashram. Just two exotic things he can check off his bucket list.

Traci: I imagine he’s lying to himself to some extent, don’t you think?

Ashley: Exactly. Well, that’s what chronic liars do, right? Guys like that, it’s a reflex. We’ve learned that the hard way.

Traci: I guess we have.

Ashley: He’s a master manipulator. He always has been. I mean, when we were married, he was supposed to be [Sighs] So incredibly in love with me, and yet… well, he cheated on me, you know? Twice. Anyway, he was involved in business dealings that hurt people I cared about, and now I’m supposed to believe it’s just a coincidence that he shows up in genoa city a few months after diane did.

Traci: Wait, y-you think there’s some connection between the two of them?

Ashley: Yeah, I think there’s a strong possibility.

Traci: What?

Ashley: I think somehow they were involved when diane was living in los angeles.

Traci: Th-this is the first i am hearing of any of this.

Ashley: Well, it stands to reason, if I’m right about this, diane would want to keep it under wraps. I mean, she’s been going on and on about the exemplary life she lived in L.A., You know, how hard she worked to change things and how frugal she was. So, if she did find herself once again in tucker’s orbit, I mean, how long do you think that saintly lifestyle would have lasted?

Traci: [ Sighs ] But what makes you think that he even knew that she was alive, let alone that they were collaborating?

Ashley: It’s complicated, and I don’t have enough time to give you details. I’m sorry. I’ve got to get to work.

Traci: [ Gasps ]

Ashley: I know. I’m leaving your writer’s brain in torment. I’m really sorry, traci.

Traci: You’ve got that right.

Ashley: But trust me — there are possible links between these two charlatans that are just too much of a coincidence to ignore. And I don’t have any proof. Yet.

[ Door opens and closes ]

Tucker: I’m glad I ran into you.

Adam: Oh, yeah?

Tucker: Yeah. I wanted to let you know that I’m delighted that you decided to cut ties with all things newman, especially victor. It’s the best thing you could’ve done for yourself, man, you know, get out from under the old man’s thumb once and for all.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] It’s a little rich, don’t you think? Editorializing about my father and me. I mean, it’s not like you have put your best foot forward to show up for your own son. Did you even know he had a kid?

Tucker: What kind of a question is that? Of course I knew he had a kid.

Adam: I’m so sorry. What was I thinking? You are tucker mccall, the, uh, all-knowing, all-seeing.

Tucker: Well, rebuilding my relationship with devon and becoming a part of my grandson’s life.

Adam: Well, I think that is a good place for you to put your energy. And from everything I’ve heard, you’re wasting your time with ashley.

Tucker: Yeah. Maybe I am. But I’m gonna try… ’cause I love her. And when you really love someone and you realize the gravity of the mistakes you made that cost you that love, there is no barrier that you wouldn’t try to overcome to win it back.

Sally: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: This is a nice surprise.

Sally: Times two.

Nick: Been thinking a lot about you.

Sally: Oh?

Nick: After our conversation at the club last night.

Sally: Yes, about our situation where we both agreed to see where the wind takes us?

Nick: Have you had a chance to consider things?

Sally: Yes. I have been thinking a lot about it, you know, about what this is, where it’s going, what it looks like now. And there is something that i would like to ask you. Facing expensive vitamin c creams with dull results?

Nick: So, you want to ask me a question. Fire away.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Okay. I know this is short notice, but can we maybe spend some time together this weekend? I don’t know. I thought maybe we could do something fun, something different, just the two of us.

Nick: I mean, I’m pretty busy.

Sally: Okay. Well, I tried.

Nick: [ Laughing ] Is that seriously your question?

Sally: Yes. Yeah, I-I — [ Sighs ] I know that we said that we were just gonna go moment by moment, but we can’t literally do that because you have christian. We both have busy lives, other obligations, so some advanced planning is required. You know, unless you just really want to keep things simple for now.

Nick: Yeah, cool. What’d you have in mind for our little, uh, hangout session?

Sally: Well, um… skydiving, hot air ballooning. Heard there’s a pinball tournament in akron.

Nick: Pinball? How did you know that —

Sally: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: Oh, you’re kidding. Okay.

Sally: Yeah. Uh… more on that later. No, I just — look, the fall colors are beautiful, and I just thought maybe we could go out to the lake and, you know, pack a nice lunch and maybe find a place to go skinny-dipping. But, you know, I’m open to any and all suggestions.

Nick: Skinny-dipping? You vicious, vicious woman. How am I supposed to think about anything else today?

Sally: I’m sorry.

Nick: Struggling to come up with any other thought. Uh, yes, I would love to spend some time with you, just the two of us, away from everything else.

Sally: Me too.

Nick: Not coming up with anything right now, but I’m sure we’ll figure something out.

Sally: Yeah.

Nick: And whatever we decide to do, can we just please keep skinny-dipping on the table?

Sally: [ Chuckles ] You have my word.

Sally: I’m not gonna let you believe that you’re cold and selfish. I know for a fact that you’re not. I know it in my heart. Because… I wouldn’t be falling in love with someone like that.

Sally: We made such an effort to keep things professional, but this is definitely not professional.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, all those declarations that nothing is going on between us. Although I will say that I sold that a little more than you did.

Sally: Not true. All of my assurances to chloe and to chelsea and even you were legit, because I did not want to ruin my chances at newman fashion or newman media.

Adam: And now newman/locke.

Sally: Actually, what was most important to me was not ruining my chances with what i really wanted.

Adam: And what is that?

Sally: You.

Adam: I mean, why waste time worrying about what other people think? Anything can happen. Life can change in an instant, so we need to grab every moment we can.

Sally: I couldn’t agree more.

[ Chuckles ] Mm. [ Chuckles ]

Sally: They’re beautiful!

Adam: Looks like someone has a secret admirer.

Sally: “Shine brightly, kick some ass, and know that I have your back. The best is yet to come. Love, adam.”

Adam: [ Gasps ]

[ Sighs ]

Nate: You’re wrong, devon. My actions had nothing to do with getting some kind of revenge.

Billy: Well, then, why don’t you go ahead and tell us what the hell is going on through your head?

Audra: Who’s the ceo you’re conspiring with? What have you shared with them?

Devon: How much damage have you done?

Nate: This was never about inflicting damage. The company was still going to thrive.

Devon: When? After it was ripped out from under us with your help?

Nate: I had one goal — creating an opportunity in the only way that seemed possible.

Lily: What do you mean, opportunity?

Devon: Oh, I think I know what he means. It has to be better than what he’s got going on here. This ceo promised to put you in charge of chancellor-winters after you helped them take it over, didn’t they?

Nate: I needed to find a way to create the break for myself you refused to give me.

Sally: Fabulous day out there.

Chloe: Yeah, I guess so.

Sally: I know so.

Chloe: Oh. Well, you’re in a good mood. Any special reason?

Sally: Well, I just ran into nick in the park, and it seemed like the universe was sending us a message.

Chloe: Oh. What kind of message was that?

Sally: Well, we had a long talk last night about where things stand, where things are going, you know, that sort of thing.

Chloe: And?

Sally: You know, we both had intense relationships that crashed and burned, and neither of us want to go through that again, but we also don’t want to miss out on this wonderful connection that we feel. So we just decided to take this as it comes, not put any labels on it, and just enjoy ourselves in the moment.

Chloe: Well, it’s always wise to get things out in the open and make sure you’re on the same page.

Sally: You’re being very diplomatic.

Chloe: Well, not on purpose. I like nick. He’s a good guy. He’s genuine and down-to-earth. And I’m so glad to see you so happy, you know, moving on from what could have been the worst thing that could have happened to you or anyone else. Forget I said that.

Billy: I mean, at least be honest about your intent. You screwed over everybody in this room, including your family.

Nate: I repeat — this wasn’t about revenge —

Billy: No, nate, you don’t get to dress this up however you want, okay? ‘Cause the truth is you betrayed us. Not only us. You betrayed my mother. You betrayed neil and katherine. You sat in here like a loyal soldier. Then you went and sold that information to another ceo behind our backs.

Devon: You never answered me before, either. You were planning to sell your stake in the company to this person, weren’t you? ‘Cause then that would put them over the top in the number of shares they owned and give them a controlling interest, right? That was the trade-off. ‘Cause then — what? — They would install you at the top so you could carry out their orders. Am I close? You’re not gonna deny that? That’s amazing. It’s amazing that you would do all of that just over some stupid issues between you and me.

Nate: Think what you want. I can’t stop you.

Devon: It’s obvious that’s what this is about. And the nerve for you to stand there and say that I don’t give you opportunities when i literally handed you this position as my second in command with your zero business experience? I’d call that an opportunity. I obviously wanted this to work out for you. We all wanted you to be a part of the family business. We supported you while you lied to my face and to everybody else here. And you know what? Let’s not forget to mention all these random times that you just so happened to run into audra outside the office. ‘Cause I’m sure that was calculated since you wanted to get as much info about this ipo deal as possible. Right?

Lily: No one is blaming you for anything, audra.

Audra: I appreciate that.

Billy: I mean, I’m sick to my stomach. I don’t even know who the hell you are. I mean, who are you?

Devon: This is the reason that you and your girlfriend elena are having problems and that she’s staying in a hotel right now. She told me she doesn’t recognize the person you’re becoming and it kills her to watch you go through it. And I’m gonna bet something else. The only reason that you even admitted all this to us is because she showed up earlier and she was gonna do it herself, right?

Nate: You do not know what you’re talking about. It was my decision to come clean.

Billy: Oh, that’s a very convenient time to grow a conscience, nate.

Lily: Wait a second. When we found out that tucker had come into town and we wanted to slow things down with the ipo, it was your idea to speed things up. You said it was in our best interest.

[ Scoffs ]

Devon: Hey, hold on, man. Hold on. This person that you’re selling us out to is my father?

[ Elevator doors opening ]

Ashley: Now you’re ambushing me at work? What are you trying to accomplish?

Tucker: Can we start with “hello,” or is that too much to ask?

Ashley: I made myself crystal clear. This is just arrogance.

Tucker: You know that’s not true, and I’m not just gonna walk away.

Ashley: But I told you — oh, please. You’ve done it before.

Tucker: Ashley, I’m —

Ashley: I told you how i felt. Now stay the hell away from me, please.

Chloe: If I’m being careful about what I say right now, it’s because I know how complicated this is for you. I alluded to adam. I didn’t even mention his name. And that big, sunny smile of yours completely disappeared.

Sally: And I have been very open with nick about that, that I’m still dealing with leftover feelings and break-up trauma, and he has been really cool and understanding.

Chloe: Yeah, you’ve said that before, but the guy has to have his limits.

Sally: Nick is giving me space to sort through my feelings with adam without making me feel weird or guilty. He’s not pressuring me in any way.

Chloe: And that must be refreshing.

Sally: Okay.

Chloe: Well, am I wrong? This is what it’s like to date a mature, emotionally healthy grown-up, and that is exactly what you need right now. You don’t need to be rushing into anything until you get the previous guy out of your system. And you just said nick knows that — because he has ethics and compassion and he’s confident enough in himself that he doesn’t want to be somebody else’s rebound. Do you know how rare that is?

Sally: [ Sighs ] Yeah. I mean, it’s — it’s so easy with nick. We made plans to spend time together this weekend, just the two of us, to get away from everything else that’s going on.

Chloe: That sounds perfect.

Sally: So looking forward to it, you know, whatever it is that we decide to do. But I am determined to focus on the positive things in my life and not the confusing ones.

Ashley: Yes, absolutely. I will text you that right now. Okay. Bye-bye.

Tucker: So, I’ve —

[ Laughs ]

Ashley: [ Sighs ]

Tucker: I have been thinking over everything you said to me, and you have every right to still be angry, so —

Ashley: Oh, thank you so much for the validation, tucker. I mean, honestly, I don’t know what I would have done without it. Listen, I’m not angry with you, okay? I’m annoyed. But what I feel for you, like i said before, was indifference.

Tucker: No. I don’t buy that. I think that’s a facade to cover up the pain you feel from what i did to you. You know that a love like ours never dies.

Ashley: Could you just get over yourself? For the record — for the record — and hear me out here — it’s easy to stop loving somebody when they’ve repeatedly cheated on you. Not to mention you tried to take away my family’s company, tucker. Are we really gonna keep going over this again and again?

Tucker: I keep coming back to that pivotal conversation we had when our relationship was falling apart, right? And katherine urged you to come talk to me and —

Ashley: Okay, so, we’re gonna keep talking about this?

Tucker: Yes, we are. Yes, we are. And you said to me the only way we could stay together is if i was a different man, if I — if I underwent some kind of miraculous change. But you weren’t sure you believed in those kind of miracles anymore, right?

Ashley: Yeah. So, you think the best way to revive my belief in miracles is to land your helicopter in my backyard? Genius.

Tucker: Yeah, that was not the best decision I’ve ever made, and I’ve taken a lot of flak for it.

Ashley: Oh, I’ll bet you have.

Tucker: And in hindsight, uh, I’m glad you weren’t there to see it. As a — [ Chuckles ] As a grand gesture, it was kind of a flop. But I have changed.

Ashley: Well, so you keep telling me. Yeah, I know.

Tucker: Right. Talk is cheap. That’s why I’m here. I would like the opportunity to show you I’ve changed, take you to dinner, okay? Just the two of us. If, after dinner, you still feel the same way, you honestly want nothing to do with me… I swear I’ll back off.

Devon: Say something, nate! Did my father come back here to try and get control of this company? Yes or no?

Nate: I am not going to reveal the ceo’s identity. This is about me, what I did, what I’m doing to make things right.

Devon: So it’s tucker.

Nate: I didn’t say that.

Devon: You didn’t have to say it. You didn’t have to say anything. Excuse me. Actually, you know what? I know this goes without saying. You’re fired.

Billy: Audra, how does this change things for us right now?

Audra: Tell us what you’ve relayed to this mysterious person about our plans. How much confidential information surrounding the ipo have you compromised?

Nate: [ Sighs ] Enough for them to be able to make a move. They’ve had time to get their financing in place. They’re ready to swoop in the day of the offering. All they need is the date it’s happening.

Billy: [ Sighs ]

Lily: [ Sighs ] Oh, my god. I have to call jill and let her know what’s going on. And, um, audra, please hold off on filing the paperwork until we just figure this whole thing out.

Audra: I’ll handle it.

Lily: Thank you. Oh, nate.

[ Scoffs ] Do you know, what’s funny, is that we were doing this ipo so that we could pursue our collective vision — ours. That included you. I mean, a lot of what we wanted to do were your ideas. And if you had gone through with this, then chancellor-winters would have been led by someone else’s vision. They would have been the majority shareholders, and they would have pushed us out. And what katherine built and devon and your uncle — what they all built would have been taken from us. And you were willing to let that happen? I mean, why? Why?

Billy: At least now we know what ashland locke saw in you — greed, selfishness. I mean, honestly, how do you do that to your own family?

Nate: I’m not even gonna pretend I can explain my motives to you.

Lily: Okay, then explain it to me. Suffering from sinus congestion,

Nate: You want to know what motivated me? Frustration. I was robbed of the one thing that brought me joy as a doctor — the ability to perform surgery. After that, my career in medicine started to feel hollow. I never took to being a hospital administrator. So, when you and devon offered me a job here —

Billy: Yeah. As coo. Not exactly in the mailroom.

Nate: I was so grateful for the opportunity.

Billy: Really? And that’s how you show it?

Nate: I threw myself into this job. For the first time in a long while, I took pride in what i was doing, felt that sense of purpose I used to have, the desire to excel.

[ Chuckles ] It was disconcerting at first when devon would shut down my ideas, wouldn’t even discuss them. But I was the new kid on the block, so I just powered on. But over time, it became obvious that something more was happening. Devon was rejecting everything i came up with, ideas I knew were good because you and billy told me so. But ultimately, it was devon’s call. And I knew you weren’t gonna challenge your brother, not about this. I wasn’t a priority.

Lily: That is not true.

Nate: It is. Not that I’m blaming you.

Billy: None of this — none of this justifies stabbing us in the back.

Nate: I wanted to make the most of this position I had been given, to be a full participant, for at least some of my ideas to be implemented. But it became clear that as long as devon could pull rank, that was never going to happen. So when a different opportunity presented itself, I grabbed it, took the initiative, set things in motion that would allow my voice to be heard and respected. Because I knew it was the only way I’d ever have a chance to prove myself.

Lily: But it wasn’t the only way, nate. It was a choice.

Nate: Yeah. So, uh…I guess that’s it.

Lily: Get out.

Nate: [ Sighs ]

Billy: [ Sighs ]

Chloe: For you, sally spectra, hand-delivered via courier.

Sally: What is that?

Chloe: Well, I don’t know, but, I mean, it looks very fancy. Nice, heavy stock. Points off for calligraphy and not real engraving, but, I mean, it just feels so nice, so rich. Very tasteful.

Sally: Let me see it.

Chloe: Ah. No, no. I need to give the sniff test first.

Sally: The sniff test?

Chloe: Yeah. [ Sniffs ] Okay. So, it’s unscented, which means it’s definitely from a man.

Sally: Oh, my god. Come on. Here. Hand it over.

Chloe: No, what’s the magic word?

Sally: Chloe!

Chloe: [ Sighs ] Okay, fine. Okay, so, stop grinning and tell me. What does it say?

Sally: It is an invitation to dinner tonight.

Chloe: Ooh.

Chloe: [ Gasps ] Where?

Sally: “The grand phoenix rooftop.”

Chloe: Very romantic. I guess nick couldn’t wait for the weekend.

Sally: I love living in the moment.

[ Laughs ]

Ashley: Look, you and I are not going anywhere, okay? There’s no relationship for us. When I broke up with you, it’s because I was so tired of your lies and your betrayals and your manipulations. And that’s when I was madly in love with you. It was a long, long time ago, tucker. I see my ex-husband standing in front of me, somebody whom i have zero trust in.

Tucker: All I’m asking you, ashley, is to sit down with me and hear me out over some wine and some dinner — at your daughter’s restaurant, no less, where I will be one wrong move from being tossed out onto the street.

Ashley: Fine. Okay. But only because I want you to stop stalking me.

Tucker: [ Scoffs ]

Tessa: Yeah, he had this super-swanky opening, but I heard that there were invited guests that didn’t come.

Mariah: Yeah, and I’m sure that those two losers have a very viable reason.

Noah: Okay, let’s hear the sob story.

Mariah: We are so, so sorry we missed the opening night, but we had to get some paperwork in for the adoption attorney.

Tessa: We got you a gift. Will you ever forgive us?

Noah: Depends on what you got me.

Mariah: That is a “reserved” sign, which I would like you to install on whatever the best seats are in the house. They’re for us, of course.

Tessa: Mm-hmm.

Mariah: We — we’re your gift.

Noah: Got it. Thank you.

Mariah: No snarky comment, witty retort? What — what’s wrong?

Noah: I’m not sure.

Mariah: What happened?

Noah: Just, you know, a little blast from the past showed up at the grand opening last night.

Tessa: Who?

Noah: My ex from london. Audra.

Audra: Allie, nice to see you again.

Allie: Hi.

Audra: [ Sighs ] Last night flew right by. Feels like a blur. I take it from the empty seat, noah is too busy getting his club ready for its second evening in business to spend any time with you.

Allie: Well, we’ve both been hard at work all day, but we managed to squeeze in a little time during our breaks. We don’t like to be apart for too long.

Victoria: Just so you know, dad has enlisted michael to look into tucker mccall’s most recent activity and to find out if he has an agenda with the chancellor-winters ipo.

Nick: Guy’s got a lot of strong personal motives to want to get his hands on the company.

Victoria: Well, he had a majority stake as chancellor in the past. Maybe he’s just looking out for devon’s position there.

Nick: Or he could go bigger.

Victoria: Like he usually does.

Nick: Especially since katherine didn’t leave him the company in her will.

Victoria: I believe that his inheritance consisted of her vinyl-record collection.

Nick: Which should have some strong sentimental value, but he probably feels slighted, you know, like she didn’t love or trust him enough to give him the reins, and now he’s just pissed off enough that he wants to get a part of the family business right now.

Victoria: Well, what if tucker wants more than a large percentage of chancellor-winters? What if he wants it all?

Nick: Well, if that’s the case, we need to ask ourselves a very important question, vick. Do we really want to get into a fight with mccall over something that he sees as his birthright?

Lily: Did you get the e-mail from audra?

Devon: I did. She moves real fast.

Lily: I know, right? As soon as nate suggested speeding things up with taking the company public, she was right on it.

Devon: Yeah, about that.

Lily: [ Sighs ] Devon, I know. I know. You want to take things slow.

Devon: No, I’m having second thoughts altogether ’cause I don’t know if rushing things is the right move.

Lily: Look, we’re all concerned about tucker, okay? That’s why we’re speeding things up, so that he can’t come after us.

Devon: I understand why we’re doing it. It’s just not a fun thought to have to imagine that my father’s trying to steal our company.

Lily: I know, I’m sure. And, you know, I really hope that we’re wrong about him. I do. But if we take these precautions, then we can protect chancellor-winters.

Nate: Thank you for coming here with me to talk. I thought if we had some privacy, it might make it easier for us to figure out how to make this work again. As much as you miss this place… …I miss you even more.

Elena: Do you?

Nate: Of course. We have so many happy memories here. So even when you’re not here, I see myself making coffee for two. Us getting cozy on the couch. And standing right here is where I surprised you with keys.

Elena: Yeah.

Nate: So this is where I will stand… while I remind you that this is our home. Billy: Right, so you weren’t sitting here, waiting for my son to show up so you could talk to him about being his mother? Because that’s what he said happened.

Chelsea: I bumped into him by chance. I did not accost him.

Billy: That’s not how he took it.

Chelsea: I just wanted to make sure he was alright.

Billy: By pushing him to bond with connor as his brother, chelsea?

Chelsea: No, no, that was not the reason.

Billy: Look, victoria and i have warned you — do not push this. We are his parents. If you do not respect that, we’re going to have some problems.

Chelsea: Johnny and I have a biological connection. That deserves some respect, too.

Elena: I hate this, nate. I hate being away from you. But it’s killing me to see what’s happening to you.

Nate: Elena, I am still the same man you fell in love with, and what I’m doing for chancellor-winters, it’s no different than being in an operating room with a patient’s life on the line. I take the initiative, override the bad advice, and trust my gut to do what had to be done. I’m sure you would do the same.

Elena: Yes, in this hypothetical situation, but —

Nate: Yes, I heard your concerns, and I have taken them to heart. Yes, we used to work together and make decisions about our jobs together. But now that our career paths have diverged, we should trust each other to make the right decisions in our respective professions. So from now on, why don’t we leave our careers outside that door? Outside our relationship? Can we do that?

Elena: I don’t know, nate.

Nate: Can we at least try? Elena, what we have is so good, it’s so much bigger than a job. You still love me, right?

Victoria: Nate, I’m sorry to pop in like this, but I, uh… hello, elena. I tried calling.

Nate: I’m sorry. I haven’t been checking my phone.

Victoria: If you’re in the middle of something, we can talk later.

Nate: Yeah, that might be best.

Elena: Actually, it’s fine. I need to get going. You can finish your conversation.

Nate: Okay. And we’ll finish this later?

Elena: I’ll call you.

Nate: [ Clears throat ]

Victoria: If you need to back out, now would be the time because that window is about to close. I’m on a mission to talk to people about

Billy: You know, I thought we were all on the same page, to make sure that we put johnny first, to give him the time and the space to handle this in the way that he sees fit, but you keep pushing for more than you originally asked, going against our wishes.

Chelsea: It was just an honest conversation.

Billy: A conversation that my son is not ready to have, chelsea. I mean, you freaked him out.

Chelsea: I feel terrible about that. I just wanted to listen to what he had to say. Honestly, I am proud of him for sticking up for himself. I didn’t fight him on anything. I didn’t chase him when he walked away. I would never put him in that position.

Billy: Well, your very presence puts him in that position.

Chelsea: What did you want me to do when I saw him, billy, huh? Turn around and walk away? That would have hurt him even more. I thought I was putting him first by showing him kindness and compassion. You know, frankly, you don’t understand what it feels like knowing that a child that you wanted to protect and that you nurtured for all those months who grew inside you wants nothing to do with you. It’s extremely painful, and i don’t think you understand that. When I look into johnny’s eyes, I feel a connection. Does he really feel nothing in return? This whole thing is ripping me up inside, so if you could just stop chastising me and try to understand where I’m coming from.

Billy: Chelsea, you got to give my son some space. I mean, you have gone years without this need for connection.

Chelsea: He has always been in my heart. Always.

Billy: Okay, well, do you know what I think is going on? And I may be wrong, but… maybe you’re feeling a little bit lost in your world right now, and you see johnny as an opportunity to try and balance things out.

Chelsea: How dare you accuse me of trying to use that little boy.

Billy: That’s not what i meant.

Chelsea: I love him. I’ve always loved him. And I thought you understood that. But you’re just like adam. You know, he accused me of trying to use connor to fix my broken parts. Is that what you think I’m doing with johnny? Is that how you see me? I’m not a bad person.

Billy: I don’t think you are. But we have to get over this hump. And I’ve tried to be respectful, and I want nothing but the best for you. But at the end of the day, and above all else, I will protect my children.

Nate: I didn’t say anything about backing out of this.

Victoria: Not explicitly, no. But you did mention that our arrangement has already been causing conflict in your relationship with elena. And if that’s true, maybe you should ask yourself if it’s worth it.

Nate: There’s no need to change anything. I have everything under control.

Victoria: Do you?

Nate: Yes. Elena and I were just in the process of straighten things out right when you arrived.

Noah: Audra dabbled in some amateur art, but she always had a business degree. I guess after I left town, she dove all the way into finance and didn’t look back.

Mariah: Is that a reason why she’s here?

Noah: Yeah, she said her company sent her here to work with chancellor-winters on some big deal.

Mariah: And you believe her?

Noah: I mean, she seemed cool enough. There was no hard feelings. But I don’t know. I got a bad vibe. Maybe it’s our history.

Mariah: I don’t like her.

Tessa: You don’t know her.

Mariah: I don’t have to. She broke my brother’s heart. That’s all I need to know. You know, this audra person, she should probably just finish up whatever business she has with the lily and devon and go back to where she’s wanted.

Allie: Yeah, and he’s — he’s thriving here, you know, and I think that’s really because of the environment. He’s surrounded by so much wealth and authenticity.

Audra: Oh, I get it. He’s not doing the art thing anymore.

Allie: Oh, no, he is. The club itself is a work of art. And, audra, if you can’t see that, then, well, you never really appreciated him. But I should thank you, you know, for whatever you did to make him leave london. No, no, hear me out, because now he is back where he belongs.

Audra: I think you’re getting the wrong idea.

Allie: [ Chuckles ] No, I am not. Okay? I see right through you, and I will only say this once. Nothing you say or imply will ever make me question noah’s affections for me.

Audra: That was never my intention. Look, I am thrilled noah’s found the right partner. I mean, we were just too volatile and unpredictable and, mm, god, the electricity… too dynamic to last. I mean, I suppose it was inevitable the fire would burn us both out. But that doesn’t sound like it’s a problem for the two of you. Hm. You’re so lucky.

Victoria: Earlier today, nicholas asked me to consider my motives for pursuing chancellor-winters.

Nate: What did you say?

Victoria: I told him that I — I didn’t know. I had to ponder it. But then it became abundantly clear. Katherine never left her company to her son tucker. She never bequeathed it to jill or devon. She left it to my father. And even though jill convinced him to sell it to her, katherine made her true intentions clear. She wanted victor newman to be her successor. So I feel justified in my motives, and my moves are going to set things right. But I really do hope that you find peace, whatever that may be. And, no, this is not going to damage us because I love you so much, even all the infuriating parts of you.

Billy: Well, I’ll still be at your beck and call at home. You’ll be able to ask me to do anything.

Audra: Wonderful. So if no one has any issues or concerns, we can go forward with filing the paperwork. If everything goes well, we should be ready to launch ahead of schedule.

Lily: Amazing. Great work. And, nate, really good idea and speeding things up.

Billy: Devon, you’re doing a great job of hiding your excitement.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Well, devon’s the resident voice of reason, right? He doesn’t get excited until there’s absolute proof that we’re on the right track.

Devon: Well, being cautious never hurts.

Lily: Well, I think that you will realize that this is the best decision.

Devon: I just can’t help but wonder what katherine and neil would think about doing this.

Billy: I agree. I’ve been thinking a lot about them this week, and, I don’t know, I think they would both say, “go big.”

Devon: Yeah, as long as we take all the precautions necessary to make sure that neither tucker or anyone else can make a move on the company.

Nate: I think we neutralized that threat with the newly accelerated timeline.

Lily: Nate’s right. And I think that we’ve also structured it in a way where we maintain control of the shares, so nothing for you to worry about.

Nate: Elena, it’s good to see you, but, um, we’re in the middle of a meeting right now.

Lily: Elena, you’re just in time. You’re going to be the first person to know that we are seconds away from finalizing our ipo paperwork.

Devon: Elena, is everything alright?

Billy: You can go ahead if you got something to say.

Nate: Why don’t you go wait in my office, and we can talk about whatever it is later?

Elena: This can’t wait.

Mariah: Hey, mr. Club owner, you don’t just get to say that your ex-girlfriend is trouble and then walk away.

Noah: I am trying to get this place ready for tonight’s crowd.

Tessa: You can do that after you explain yourself.

Mariah: Yeah, we need to know what kind of drama or trouble we’re looking for here.

Noah: Audra can be very strong-willed. She does this thing where she spirals emotionally.

Mariah: That sounds unpleasant.

Noah: Yeah. Yeah, it is. You never really know what’s going to set her off on one of her moods, and once she gets into it, kind of turns into a spoiled little kid. Doesn’t really understand the word “no.” She’ll do anything to get what she wants.

Tessa: Wow. I have a hard time seeing you in a relationship with someone like that.

Noah: It was a dark time. I don’t need that kind of drama in my life anymore.

Mariah: Then that settles it. She’s got to go. And I don’t really care how, but let’s just get her on the next flight back to london.

Allie: Let me guess. You guys started talking about a certain someone.

Noah: I regret even bringing her up. I’d be happy never to hear her name again.

Allie: Well, then, I guess I shouldn’t tell you that I ran into her earlier.

Nate: [ Clears throat ]

Devon: Hey, elena, you know you can speak freely. We’re all on the same team here. So if something’s bugging you, it affects all of us.

Lily: Yeah, whatever it is, we’ll work it out together.

Elena: I just need to speak to nate. Alone.

Nate: Um, if you’ll excuse me for a moment.

Lily: Yeah. Take your time.

Nate: We should have some privacy here. Thank you for this. For a second, I thought you going to tell everyone what victoria and I were working on.

Elena: I considered it. It would have been very easy for me to tell everyone in that room that while you were sitting there smiling in their face, you were plotting to stab them in the back.

Nate: So why didn’t you do it?

Elena: I just… I just couldn’t do that to you. There’s already been so much deception going around. I didn’t want to add to it.

Nate: Then why did you come here?

Elena: I’m leaving genoa city.

Nate: Okay, yeah, maybe a vacation is exactly what you need, okay? Get some —

Elena: I’m not talking about a vacation. I mean forever.

Nate: I don’t — I don’t understand. What?

Elena: I spoke to my friend in baltimore, the one who wanted me to work at her hospital last year. Turns out there is a position available, and they’re still interested in me joining their team.

Nate: Is this a done deal?

Elena: No. But I’m going to interview for it, and chances are I will get an offer.

Nate: Wow. Um… I can’t — I can’t b– elena, a couple of hours ago, we were in our home talking about the future we were going to build together. I meant every word I said to you. Before victoria came in and interrupted us, I truly believed we were making progress, finding a way back to each other.

Elena: I wish that were true, but what you’ve proposed would have never worked, and I think we both know that. I can’t pretend that I don’t care about what you’re doing in your career. That’s just not the way my head and my heart work. And I can’t ignore what you’re doing to your family.

Nate: Okay, look, look, let’s — let’s slow down, alright? Give me one night. Let’s sleep on this, and we can wake up in the morning and talk about this with a fresh perspective.

Elena: I’m leaving tonight. This is me saying goodbye. (Grump) there is no perfect, only practice.

Allie: So, I ran into audra at crimson lights. She acted super friendly, but you could definitely tell there was more going on under the surface.

Mariah: Mm-hmm. Yeah, I know the type. Sickeningly sweet, with a side of passive aggressiveness?

Allie: Yep, that’s it. She insisted that I join her. Oh, and she couldn’t wait to walk me down memory lane, regaling me with stories about london.

[ Sighs ] I — [ Clears throat ] I know this is gonna sound hollow.

[ Sighs ] I’ve missed you so much. I have dreamt of this day for a long time.

Ashley: Please spare me the compliments and the pretty speeches. Why are you really here, tucker? What are you up to?

Tucker: [ Chuckles ] Right now I’m just — just drinking you in. There’s no, uh — no secret machinations at play.

Ashley: I find that very hard to believe.

Tucker: Mm. Uh, I don’t know if you heard about this, but when I was in monte carlo, uh, I was in a near-fatal car crash. Thought I was a dead man. And, uh, there’s nothing like looking death in the face to give you a new perspective on life. So, as I lay there recovering, I reevaluated everything, you know, what I’ve accomplished, but mostly what I’ve lost. And how I wronged you is at the top of my list of regrets. So, what am I up to? I’m here to make it right with you.

Jack: I was talking about my sister and tucker. Please don’t make this about us.

[ Cellphone pings ]

Phyllis: Excuse me. I have to take this. Hi.

Nikki: I just had a very interesting meeting with diane and tucker. I have new information on wild beauty. Can you meet me at chancellor park?

Phyllis: I’ll be right there. Um, I’m sorry I have to cut this short. I have to go to a meeting.

[ Elevator doors open ]

Summer: Kyle.

Kyle: Hey, babe.

Summer: Hi.

Kyle: Highlight of my day by far.

Summer: Didn’t think it was possible, but you have gotten even more romantic since our vow renewal.

Kyle: Mm.

Summer: Where you headed?

Kyle: On my way to meet my mom for lunch. You want to join?

Summer: No, I can’T. I have too much to catch up on. Plus, I just saw that somebody added a meeting to my calendar for later this afternoon.

Kyle: That was me. There’s something important i need to discuss with you.

Summer: Is it something i should be concerned about?

Kyle: Mm, actually, I think you’ll be pleased with my proposal, but I can’t get into it now. I’ll see you later.

Michael: I got the feeling from your message that you had a matter of some urgency to discuss?

Victor: Tucker mccall. I want you to find out why he suddenly returned to genoa city.

Michael: [ Chuckles ] From what I hear, he made quite the grand re-entrance. He certainly wasn’t sneaking around or being private about his plans. What is it you want me to dig into?

Victor: He says he’s here to mend fences with ashley, to reconnect with his son devon, and meet his grandson. I don’t trust any of this. But I’m gonna make sure that he will not do any harm to ashley or that boy.

Michael: That’s very chivalrous of you. I imagine ashley could hold her own, and since tucker would have to go through abby to get to dominic, I’m guessing the little guy is pretty well protected, too. But what ulterior motives do you suspect the man of having?

Victor: Victoria is about to make a big business move.

Michael: Oh?

Victor: She is in the process of gaining a big stake in chancellor-winters. And I have a feeling that tucker mccall is here because he somehow got wind of it.

Michael: Wait, wait. Did I miss some news of an ipo?

Victor: That’s the point. There has been no ipo as of yet. Our victoria has some inside information. She’s ready to act.

Tucker: I could never shake you, even after all this time. And coming to grips with what i squandered when I lost you is a large part of what drove me to an ashram, renouncing all my worldly possessions, only to discover that that’s not really who I am.

Ashley: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Um, well, I ended things with you because I couldn’t take any more of your secrets and your lies. And the women that you were sleeping with — they kind of got in the way.

Ashley: Now, that was a good speech. Must have taken you a long time to write that one.

Tucker: I will admit that i have thought long and hard about seeing you and what I might say when I did. Yeah, and in particular, what it would require to convince you that I’m sincere.

[ Laughs ] There’s so much I want you to know.

Ashley: You think there’s a future for us? Is that what you’re trying to say?

Michael: Who’s victoria’s source? No, wait. N-never mind. Don’t answer me. I don’t want to know.

Victor: I assure you her information is very reliable.

Michael: You and victoria need to be very cautious. What you’re planning is not totally ethical, and in certain circumstances, it could even be flat out illegal.

Victor: Oh, don’t you worry, okay? I trust victoria. But that is also why I ask you to guide her, you know, about the legal aspects of all this.

Michael: I’m not sure I feel all that comfortable offering advice on this matter. I mean, need I remind you I was the D.A.

Victor: For heaven’s sake, man, that’s why I asked you. Who knows the law better than you?

Michael: Well, as long as the counsel she’s seeking is on how to follow the law, not skirt it.

Victor: Now, you have been around me long enough and around the inner circle of the newmans long enough to know how we operate.

Michael: [ Sighs ] That’s exactly what I’m afraid of.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Phyllis: Okay. Please tell me that you connected tucker to private image. I mean, that is the name of the bentley company that diane was being chauffeured around in in L.A., Right?

Nikki: Okay, listen to this. It turns out that noah has heard of wild beauty. In fact, his former girlfriend, audra charles, used to work for them.

Phyllis: Can you get a hold of her? I mean, maybe she’s the one who can connect tucker and diane to these companies.

Nikki: Things did not end well for those two, but she just showed up in town.

Phyllis: Well, that’s interesting. The coincidences keep on piling up.

Nikki: Oh, I don’t believe they’re coincidences at all. I think they all tie back to tucker.

Phyllis: Yeah, I think so, too, but without any connection of him to one of these companies or diane to one of these companies, it’s all conjecture on our part.

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Nikki: Noah? Ah. Okay, thanks for the update, honey.

Phyllis: What did he say?

Nikki: He just ran into his ex at crimson lights.

Phyllis: Oh, my gosh. Really? I mean, there’s definitely a connection. We just have to find out.

Nikki: I am going to go see what I can find out from audra charles. Why do dermatologists worldwide recommend

Summer: Hey. Sorry to interrupt, but have you seen my mom around?

Jack: You just missed her. She had an important meeting to get to.

Summer: Huh. Wonder what that’s about.

Jack: Well, I don’t think it has much to do with marchetti. She had that gleam in her eye, you know, the one she gets when she’s up to something.

Summer: Mm. I cannot get drawn into any of her drama. I am still walking on cloud nine from our vow renewal ceremony. Thank you again, by the way, for helping us to make it so special.

Jack: The abbott home is your home. You don’t need to thank me. I was glad we could do it there. And for the record, you were every bit as lovely a bride there as you were in milan.

Summer: Aww. Well, I am very grateful to you for hosting and for the compliment, but that’s not exactly what I was thanking you for.

Diane: The vow renewal was so beautiful. You and summer make such a lovely couple. And what about my little harrison? He was so adorable.

[ Sighs ] I can’t tell you how much it means to me that I was there to witness it. It’s something I would have thought was impossible just a couple months ago. You okay? I hope you didn’t let tucker mccall’s party-crashing stunt put a damper on the day. It was perfect, despite his unwelcome appearance.

Kyle: Nothing could wreck the ceremony for me. But I did hear a lot of innuendos being thrown around the reception relating to you and tucker’s past.

Diane: Oh [Scoffs] That is ancient history, long over. Half of the women in this town have a past with tucker. I hope you don’t hold it against me.

Kyle: You know very well i can forgive for past mistakes, but phyllis seems to think this is a very present connection between you and tucker. Please tell me that’s not true.

Tucker: I realize I can’t just pop in here and expect you to take me back all of a sudden after all this time.

Ashley: It’s good that you know that. It’s not gonna happen. I moved on with my life, tucker, and I never looked back.

Tucker: I’m sorry to hear that.

Ashley: I am curious about something, though. Um, I find it very interesting that you show up here just a few months after diane did. It’s almost like you followed her back to genoa city, isn’t it?

Tucker: That’s not the case. No, I was, uh — I was as surprised as I’m sure you all were that she was still alive. And trust me — I have zero interest in revisiting anything with that woman. That was over long before you and I even broke up. I swear. You believe that?

Ashley: No, I don’T. But I don’t need to belabor it, either. If you’re not gonna tell me the real reason why you’re in genoa city, then we have nothing else to discuss. You said what you need to say, I responded, and you can go.

Audra: Thank you.

Nikki: Excuse me. Are you audra charles?

Audra: Yes, I am.

Nikki: Well, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m nikki —

Audra: Nikki newman, co-ceo of newman enterprises, wife of the esteemed victor newman.

Nikki: Well, I’m impressed.

Audra: I pride myself on knowing the major players in the business world.

Nikki: Well, then you also know that I am noah newman’s grandmother. I understand you knew him in london.

Audra: Yes, I did know him in london. And I was pleasantly surprised to discover he’s back here in genoa city. I even got the chance to go to the opening of his incredible club last night.

Nikki: Oh, my goodness. What a coincidence. It’s a small world.

Audra: I’m actually here on business, doing some consulting work for chancellor-winters. It’s lovely to meet you. I’ve admired your career from afar. And of course noah adores his family, so I had the privilege of hearing about the newmans from that perspective, as well.

Nikki: Ahh. Well, I’m afraid grandsons don’t confide in their grandmothers as they do their friends, so I’m sure you know much more about me and my family than I do about you.

Audra: Yeah, I guess that’s possible.

Nikki: And since you’re working at chancellor-winters, i hope you can appreciate the importance of keeping the legacy of my dear friend katherine alive.

Audra: Of course. Katherine chancellor is a legend.

Nikki: Mm. Do you have time to sit down with me? I’d love to hear more about you. If you’re on medicare, remember,

Jack: Well, I thank you for the compliment, but I think you deserve most of the credit for making kyle the fine man that he is today.

Jack: I love them all, and I’ve decided I’m going to become an official grandfather and get one of those digital frames so i can have them on a loop all day long.

Jack: Summer, you have been a part of my life since the day you were born, literally. That you are now the center of my son’s life brings me a kind of joy I cannot describe. To see you two happy and in love brings me so much happiness. To have the three of you living in the abbott family estate — well, you make a house a home. I hope you know you are welcome to stay there as long as you like.

Summer: Thank you, jack. We love it there.

Jack: It has been the thrill of my life to watch the two of you grow and mature into a loving couple, there for each other in the great moments, there for each other in the tougher moments, but most of all, to see you become smart, attentive, adoring parents to harrison. It gives me hope for the future.

Diane: I can’t tell you how disturbing those allegations are to me. Just when I’m beginning to gain your trust and forgiveness, tucker shows up and suddenly there’s doubt, all because of some history? And I do mean history.

Kyle: That’s not exactly a denial.

Diane: [ Sighs ] Alright, i will tell you what I told jack and phyllis and nikki. I am shocked that that man had the gall to show his face in genoa city again. I sincerely regret my past with him, and I wish he had never come back into our lives.

Kyle: I’m not trying to accuse you of anything, mom. I just want to know the truth. That’s why I’m coming to you directly to ask rather than let rumors run rampant. I value the open communication we’ve built.

Diane: Trust me. The only current connection i have to tucker is one of pure loathing.

Kyle: Mm. Well, glad to hear it ’cause i know enough about mccall to not particularly like the fact that he’s returned.

Nikki: Katherine was a titan in the business world. And in her day, that did not come easy for a woman. It took real power and skill to navigate that world and come out on top. Oh, she was such a role model for me. But enough of my old friend. I’d like to know more about you. Now, I remember noah said that you were an artist like him, but you say that you’re doing some work for chancellor-winters. Doesn’t sound very much like art.

Audra: I mean, I — I was an artist. And, in fact, I hope I still am. But, I mean, it was just never something that paid the bills. I always needed a day job. And after years of scraping by, I went to business school to please my parents, a fallback career, which they insisted on. As it turned out, I enjoyed it, and I was good at it.

Nikki: Mm. Do you ever wish you had pursued your art full time? Do you miss it?

Audra: I-I keep working on my art as a creative outlet, but sometimes parents really do know best.

Nikki: [ Chuckles ] Well, I think it’s wonderful you were able to satisfy both sides of yourself. Now, noah also mentioned that you worked for a nonprofit organization that supports artists. Um… ugh. I’m forgetting the name.

Audra: You must mean wild beauty.

Nikki: Yes, yes, that’s it. It sounds like a great organization that I should consider supporting. Can you tell me a little more about that?

Tucker: It’s funny — after all this time imagining seeing you and practicing in my mind what I was gonna say, I never imagined this would be your reaction.

Ashley: You thought I’d say, “welcome back, let’s give it another shot, tucker”?

Tucker: No, of course not. I just… well, I had prepared myself for your anger, fury, even hatred. But I wasn’t prepared for this, for apathy.

Ashley: “Apathy’s” a good word, and so is “indifference.”

Tucker: That’s even worse.

[ Clears throat ] ‘Cause at least if you were angry, I’d know that you still had feelings for me. You know, the fine line between love and hate. Okay. [ Clears throat ] Well, before I go, I… I’m gonna give you something, something from our time together. Um, I’m hoping it will at least show you that you’ve never left my mind. You remember that?

Tucker: The japanese tea ceremony, yeah.

Audra: I was never really part of the financial side of things. I mainly helped the organization identify artists to support. I’d love to continue this, but i have a meeting to get to. It was lovely meeting you. And as I said, I’ve long admired your career.

Abby: Why would you bother? I hate the idea of the two of you face-to-face. I saw him here having dinner with devon, and I made it very clear that he is not welcome here. But of course, that didn’t matter because tucker is a disgusting human being who thrives off greed and exploitation.

Ashley: Okay, well, that does sound a little like tucker.

Abby: I can’t believe that he has some fantasy of making amends with you or that you gave him the time of day.

Ashley: Just relax, okay? There’s nothing to worry about. I was over him when he left town.

Abby: Good.

Ashley: And I think even less of him now than I ever did, okay?

Abby: That’s good to hear.

Ashley: And I also don’t believe for a second that he’s back here because of some deep, abiding love that he has for me.

Abby: [ Sighs ] Neither do I. Tucker has an agenda, and whatever it is, I want him as far away from my mother and my family as possible.

Diane: Thanks again, kyle. It’s one of the favorite parts about my job — getting to have quick, impromptu lunches with my son, and just seeing you around the office brightens my day.

Diane: You know, I-I-I hope you, um, understand why I got a bit defensive when you questioned me about tucker. It’s just a reflex when his name comes up at this point.

Ashley: So, here we are again, ladies, the magnificent triumvirate dedicated to getting diane out of this town. How’s that going? Because I have somebody else i want to add to that list — tucker mccall. Another undesirable that needs to leave genoa city.

Phyllis: Funny you should mention that.

Nikki: Because we’re convinced that diane and tucker are a package deal.

Summer: So, why did you bring me here? It seems like kind of an odd place to have a work meeting.

Kyle: Well, I wanted to get you out of the office to avoid running into any of our parents or any other work interruptions.

Summer: Huh. My calendar says “breakout summit.” Is this one of those corporate leadership strategy exercises that you’ve been wanting to try?

Kyle: In a way. I’ve finalized our plans for our breakout escape.

Summer: Oh, so, that’s what this is about.

Kyle: I’ve been working on the perfect honeymoon to celebrate my marriage to the most beautiful woman on earth. Picture a secluded costa rican beach, a private chef who makes herself scarce after every meal, piña coladas and oceanside spa treatments.

Summer: Ooh. I can’t believe that you planned this all on your own. And you even found a time that we could both get away from work? You really are the perfect husband.

Kyle: Mm. I guess I’m inspired by my perfect wife.

Summer: We can’t get on that plane soon enough.

Kyle: Ahh. I — I do have one request. It’s just an idea. You can say no if you disagree. But I was wondering if maybe for the last few days we had —

Summer: The nanny bring harrison down for a couple of days of fun-filled family beach vacation? Oh, god. That wasn’t what you were going to say?

Victor: I don’t think you have anything to worry about. Have a seat. Victoria’s going to play this very discreetly. But there’s something else that worries me.

Michael: What could that possibly be?

Victor: Tucker mccall, I have a feeling, is here because he wants to play a hand in the chancellor-winters deal.

Michael: That seems unlikely. From what I hear, he’s divested himself of all of his holdings except mccall unlimited. You know, he’s switched gears from world domination to downsizing his companies.

Victor: That doesn’t mean a damn thing. Think about it for a moment. He’s katherine chancellor’s son. He’s devon’s father, dominic’s grandfather. I think his motives are more personal. And the man is not known to play by the rules.

Michael: Careful. Many people would say that about you.

Victor: I don’t give a damn what they say about me. But I will not let anyone, certainly not tucker mccall, to interfere with plans that victoria has for our business.

Ashley: So, it’s no coincidence that diane was seen riding around in a bentley that’s the same make and model as the one owned by private image.

Nikki: Absolutely not, and we have victor’s team to thank for finding out the ownership of that car.

Ashley: Right. Private image owns a nonprofit arm called wild beauty that’s based in london.

Phyllis: Yes.

Ashley: Okay.

Phyllis: And your father called you “my beauty.”

Ashley: Mm-hmm.

Phyllis: And tucker called you “beauty,” right?

Ashley: Yeah.

Phyllis: There. There. That connects tucker to wild beauty, thereby connecting him to diane.

Ashley: Right. It’s kind of a reach, though, don’t you think? I mean, the only proof you have is that the name of the organization somewhat resonates? I don’t know.

Phyllis: Excuse me, ashley, but my instincts have never ceased to point me in the right direction.

Ashley: Okay, I’m just trying to get to the bottom of this.

Nikki: Alright, anyway — anyway, victor’s team is trying to find more proof. In the meantime, I just had a very interesting conversation with audra charles.

Ashley: Who’s that?

Nikki: Audra is my grandson noah’s ex who used to work for wild beauty. And I asked her if she ever came across a tucker mccall.

Phyllis: And?

Nikki: Well, she admitted that she knew of him but didn’t know him.

Phyllis: I mean, I don’t believe that. I don’t believe that she worked for a company that we believe tucker had a financial stake in and she never met him.

Ashley: What if — I mean, there’s a possibility, right, that tucker has no connection to wild beauty or private image.

Nikki: Well, ashley, I know i just told you about this audra person, but tucker came to town practically on her heels. We are so close to tying this thing together. We just have to find that missing piece of the puzzle. Super emma just about sleeps in her cape.

Summer: Oh, my god, I am so sorry. I didn’t mean to step on your wonderful honeymoon plans. It’s just that I’ve been looking at the pictures from the vow renewal ceremony. And then I was talking to jack, and I was thinking how much love we have in our little family. And — I don’t know — for some reason, I was thinking that you were having the same idea, but I —

Kyle: [ Laughing ] I was. I had the exact same idea. I just can’t believe you came up with the same one, too.

Summer: That is a huge relief, and I’m thrilled. But, baby, you shouldn’t be shocked. We love each other, and we love our son. And who doesn’t love a family beach vacation?

Kyle: You’re right. We’re completely in sync. Just proof we were meant to be. And everything we went through in the past, the breaking up, getting back together again, breaking up again —

Summer: Getting back together again.

Kyle: It’s just proof that once we finally made it permanent, we were destined to last forever.

Ashley: So, whatever happened with talia morgan’s articles? I thought it was supposed to be some big exposé that shed light on what diane was up to in los angeles. Instead, only one was published. That was it.

Phyllis: Ah.

Nikki: Yeah. Her editor suddenly shut it down.

Phyllis: Yeah. We believe that someone applied pressure. Somebody out there doesn’t want any more stories about diane.

Ashley: So, if it’s true that diane was seen riding around in tucker’s bentley, then that means they were in contact after she “died.” What happened? Did they hook up after he found out she was alive?

Nikki: Or did he know all along that she had staged her death?

Ashley: Yeah. How far does this go back?

Phyllis: Yeah, these are all the questions that we should be asking. These are pieces of the puzzle. I mean, they really are. What is tucker’s connection to this company that owns the bentley? And, ultimately, what’s his connection to diane?

Ashley: Yeah. So, the only issue is, if victor didn’t have any luck with his professionals making a financial tie-in here, I mean, are we gonna have any better luck with amateur sleuthing?

Phyllis: Hey, I don’t appreciate your monday quarterbacking. I mean, while you’re gallivanting all over paris —

Phyllis: Yeah. I mean, nikki and I — we’re doing the heavy lifting. Really. And we’re not coming up with any answers because they’ve obviously been scrubbed.

Ashley: Just relax, okay? I mean, I’ve done a little reconnaissance of my own, phyllis, here, okay?

Nikki: Oh. Well, do tell.

Ashley: I met with tucker earlier. I told him I was very suspicious of the timing, him coming back to genoa city so soon after diane did. Of course, he swears that there was no connection.

Nikki: You believe him?

Ashley: No. I learned a long time ago not to trust in tucker’s swears. I also made sure that he understood there was no hope for rekindling a relationship with me, you know?

Phyllis: Okay, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. This is how you can be useful in our effort.

Ashley: Oh, really? And what would that be?

Phyllis: You’re our in. Yep. I wouldn’t be so quick to shut the door on tucker. Maybe with you, he’ll slip up.

[ Knock on door ]

Jack: Hey. What’s going on?

Diane: Uh… normally I would come up with some sort of work issue as an excuse to speak to you, but, uh, this time I think I’m just going to get straight to the point.

Jack: Okay. Go for it.

Diane: [ Sighs ] I have to admit, I’m a little worried.

Jack: About?

Diane: Tucker’s return. It just feels wrong in so many ways. And he still hasn’t given any real explanation as to why he came back.

Jack: Supposedly, it’s all about ashley — and, I suppose, reconnecting with devon, meeting his grandchild. But the good news is, I am thrilled to tell you, my sister is not interested at all in connecting with him.

Diane: Has ashley spoken to tucker?

Jack: Oh, yeah, my sister’s in town. She has agreed to meet with him. She wants to make her position very clear so that there is no misunderstanding.

Diane: Well, I’m — I’m — I’m not surprised that ashley wants nothing to do with him, but I still suspect he has another agenda. And who knows what he’s going to do or say once she makes her feelings clear to him? You know what? I-I think we all just, uh, need to be on alert. We can’t trust anything about tucker mccall.

[ Door slams ]

Audra: So, how did things go with your ex?

Tucker: Oh, pretty much as i expected, if not how I hoped. It’s not gonna be easy. She’s a special woman. But as you know, I’m a patient man — and determined. I will win ashley back.

Audra: I know better than to bet against you.

Tucker: So, what’s going on with chancellor-winter?

Audra: All is going relatively smoothly with the preparations for the ipo.

Jack: Why haven’t you returned my calls?

Ashley: Nice to see you, too. I’ve been really busy. And you didn’t say it was urgent. I figured you could tell me what it is when I saw you in person.

Jack: I suppose it’s all for the best anyway.

Ashley: Why? What happened?

Jack: Brace yourself. Tucker mccall is back in town.

Tucker: Hello, nikki. Anything interesting going on in the world?

Nikki: My, my, tucker mccall. You just keep popping up everywhere, don’t you?

Tucker: Yeah, sorry we didn’t get a chance to have a chat at your granddaughter’s event.

Nikki: I don’t think you’re the least bit sorry. You were too busy making a spectacle of yourself.

Tucker: Mm. I wouldn’t put it quite that way.

Nikki: No? How would you describe it?

[ Both scoff ] Memorable one at that, no?

Phyllis: How’d your pictures turn out?

Diane: Excuse me?

Phyllis: Your pictures. I saw you shooting away during the vow-renewal ceremony.

Diane: Oh, well, they’re — they’re lovely, just like the entire day.

Phyllis: Oh, wasn’t it gorgeous? So much love in the room. Even tucker’s unwelcome arrival didn’t ruin that.

Diane: Yeah. I still can’t believe it.

Phyllis: Yeah. Why’s that? What part?

Diane: Well, the whole thing. Him being back, you know, him — him trying to make kyle and summer’s day all about himself. The whole vulgar and ostentatious display.

Phyllis: Oh, my gosh. I completely agree with you. Completely. I mean, coming down in a helicopter, what was that about? Trying to be james bond or something? I couldn’t understand that. And giving the kids a vintage bentley, as if they’d want a car like that. I just couldn’t wrap my head around that. His reasoning for giving them a car — a bentley, of all things. I couldn’t figure it out. Can you?

Audra: Well. Hello.

Noah: Hey. Didn’t see you there.

Audra: Mm. Then it’s a good thing I saw you.

Noah: Right.

Audra: Let me guess. Triple espresso with the crema scraped off.

Noah: Good memory.

Audra: I imagine you need the caffeine after your big night. Congratulations again on your incredible club.

Noah: Thank you. So, how’s work going? You’re doing some financial stuff for chancellor-winters, right? That’s why you’re in town?

Audra: Mm. Someone’s been paying attention.

Noah: How long you staying?

Audra: Uh, can’t say for sure. As long as it takes to get the job done. I mean, after that, I’ll decide just how worth my while it might be to stick around.

Victoria: Hi. Thanks for meeting me here.

Nate: Yeah. What’s going on?

Victoria: Uh, well, before we get into the main issue, I’m curious to hear about this consultant that jill brought in to oversee the ipo.

Nate: Audra charles.

Victoria: I understand that you’ve developed a personal relationship.

Noah: A work-based friendship. Nothing beyond that.

Victoria: Understood. Um, I would like a more detailed understanding of who she is and what she plans to do to prep chancellor-winters for going public.

Noah: I’ve been working for a while to get to know her and gain her trust.

Victoria: That sounds promising.

Nate: When she first arrived, we kept bumping into each other, you know, became friendly. But I realized I had to watch what I said around her because, as you would expect, she is extremely sharp.

Victoria: Yes, I got the same impression from her when she introduced herself to me at crimson lights.

Nate: Hadn’t realized you’d met.

Victoria: No, it was brief, but the lady does have ambitions.

Nate: Oh, big-time.

Victoria: So, uh, what is it like working with her?

Nate: Hmm. Audra’s thorough. Knows her stuff. Always well-prepared. But, at the same time, when she’s off the clock, she loves to have her fun.

Victoria: Interesting.

Nate: I figure, in time, she’ll become my best source of information to pass along to you.

Victoria: That’s good. It’ll be good that she’s a known quantity instead of this particular businessman that’s problematic that I know that I don’t have to name.

Nate: Are you referring to tucker mccall?

Victoria: If anyone could throw a serious wrench into our plans, it would be him.

Devon: What’s up?

Billy: I know we’re about to meet with nate and audra, but, uh, there’s something I’d like to share with you both, and I’d rather not wait.

Lily: I assume this is regarding tucker.

Devon: What about him?

Billy: Look, I know this might be a little bit sensitive, but we all have questions about your dad’s sudden re-emergence, so I did a little digging into mccall unlimited and his recent actions, and I’m not happy about what I found. When you can’t sleep…

Nate: I take it you don’t buy tucker’s story, that he’s here to reconnect with his family.

Victoria: Do you?

Nate: Not so much.

Victoria: Has he reached out to devon yet?

Nate: When I spoke with lily at the office this morning, she said tucker came by last night and persuaded devon to spend some time with him. But it caught devon totally off guard. Which leads me to believe that he and devon have not been in contact.

Victoria: So it’s unlikely that tucker found out about the ipo from devon.

Nate: If he even knows at all.

Victoria: Tucker, I know he’s no longer on the board at chancellor, but it’s safest to assume that he does, and be prepared for him to make moves on the company.

Nate: Okay. So what’s your plan?

Victoria: I think I need to sit down with tucker and suss out exactly what his true intentions are.

Nate: Without showing your hand?

Victoria: Give me a little more credit than that.

Nate: I give you plenty of credit. I am in awe of your business acumen.

Victoria: And you have got more talent than devon was willing to acknowledge.

Nate: Which is what brought me to you.

Billy: Tucker has been on a selling spree. He divested his company of several divisions, increasing his cash reserves.

Devon: And then just randomly shows up in town right when we’re about to go public. That’s pretty convenient timing.

Lily: Yeah, to say the least. You okay?

Devon: Yeah, no. I — I just don’t know what to think about it, ’cause… there’s no issues between me and tucker. He seemed sincere when he said he just came to town to reconnect with people and me and spend time with dominic.

Lily: Well, they might not be mutually exclusive. He could be here to sniff out a business opportunity and then also connect with family. I mean, some people are better at compartmentalizing than others.

Billy: Look, devil’s advocate — it’s conceivable that he’s selling those subsidiaries for a different reason altogether. Might not have anything to do with us going public.

Devon: Yeah, anything’s possible, but how likely is that? I think the smart thing to do, moving forward, is just to keep a close eye on the man.

Diane: I agree that tucker’s gift was all wrong, but it’s obvious why he chose it.

Phyllis: Oh. Really? Please tell me what was obvious. I’d love to get your take on this.

Diane: Well, he made a point of reminding everyone that john abbott had a bentley. You know, clearly, he was trying to score points, calling back the beloved family patriarch, trying to impress everybody with his generosity and thoughtfulness, as if that could erase the bad taste he left in everybody’s mouth.

Phyllis: Right, as if. As if. [ Chuckles ] It’s still such a weird car to give two young kids. That’s all. You know, a vintage bentley. I know a lot of people who would kill for a car like that.

Diane: Yeah, I suppose. Car like that’s always been out of my league. I’ve never driven one, never will.

Phyllis: Really? Oh, my goodness. Well, you should ask the kids if you could just slip in and take it for a drive. I’m sure you’d love it.

Diane: What is it that you’re trying to say to me, phyllis?

Phyllis: Uh, nothing. What would I be saying to you?

Diane: [ Scoffs ] The way you framed that. As if I would use my son or his wife for their car or money. Just — just what exactly are you trying to imply?

Phyllis: Okay. I’m not trying to imply anything, diane. I’m just making casual conversation ’cause I promised I’d be civil to you. I just figured tucker and his car would be pretty banal. You know what I mean? But you know what? Um, I’m sorry I offended you.

Diane: [ Sighs ] I’m sorry I overreacted. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I was just on my way out.

[ Elevator door opens ]

Phyllis: Liar, liar, liar.

[ Elevator door closes ] You are lying, diane, and we’re gonna get to the bottom of this, nikki and I. And then everything is gonna blow up — kww! — In your face. I was taking my antidepressant daily,

Ashley: Wow. We don’t hear from tucker for years, and this is how he turns back up? He lands a helicopter on our back lawn, crashing kyle and summer’s ceremony, and then he gives them a car worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. That’s outrageous.

Jack: Kids were pretty put off by it. Hell, so was everyone.

Ashley: Well, tucker’s always had a flair for the dramatic, right? But this is over the top, even for him. So, how did he seem?

Jack: Full of life, full of himself, blithely unaware of how this might affect anyone at a private family gathering, smiling, saying hello to everyone, as if we’d all seen him yesterday, and of course mentioning that he plans to stay around for a while.

Ashley: Yeah, makes sense. He probably wants to get closer to devon now that tucker’s a grandpa now.

Jack: Yeah, that would make sense. Only he didn’t mention devon or dominic. The only person he asked me about was you.

Ashley: Me?

Jack: He was disappointed that you missed his big entrance. He wants to see you, ash. And he seems convinced that you will want to hear what he has to say.

Tucker: I take it victor told you he paid me a visit?

Nikki: Oh, yes. Yes. He wanted to know what we all do — why you’re back in genoa city and what possible reason you had to come now. I understand you weren’t very forthcoming.

Tucker: Is that what he told you? That’s a little bit disingenuous of him.

Nikki: Well, if anybody’s disingenuous, it’s you.

Tucker: I answered all his questions.

Nikki: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Wanted to meet the grandson, catch up with devon, say your mea culpas to ashley. Have I left anything out? Actually, you know what? Never mind, because I’m not that interested. I would like to share something of my own.

Nikki: [ Laughs ] Wow! Sharing time? I like it.

Nikki: If you are planning on putting roots down here again, there is something you should know. When ashland locke betrayed our family, we dealt with him. In fact, if he had left us alone, he would probably be alive today. But he’s gone due to his reckless behavior.

Tucker: Well, I consider myself warned.

Nikki: Good. Wow, the newmans and the abbotts and many others have to deal with the likes of diane jenkins. But, god willing, she will be on her way out of town soon.

Tucker: And your point is…?

Nikki: There is no place in genoa city for people who want to do harm to the respectable families.

Tucker: [ Scoffs ] “Respectable” is a subjective term.

Nikki: Oh, I don’t know.

Tucker: Diane. Come say hi.

Audra: I wish you didn’t have to run off so soon.

Noah: Busy day and lots to do.

Audra: Or is it that you feel uncomfortable around me? I’m sorry about the way things fell apart for us in london. But you seem to have recovered. I’m glad. I meant what I said at the club opening. Your new friend seems very cute.

Noah: Don’t — don’t — don’t do that.

Audra: Don’t do what?

Noah: Belittle allie. Disparage her. I’m not gonna put up with it, so cut it out, okay?

Audra: That wasn’t my intent. But I’m impressed with how quickly you came to her defense. Sounds like you’re in love. I recognized the signs, given I was once the recipient of that love.

Noah: It’s one of the worst mistakes of my life.

Audra: It wasn’t all bad. Was it?

Noah: It was bad enough that it had to end. So, audra, while you’re in town, however long that may be, I’d really appreciate it if you kept your distance. Just let me enjoy the happiness I found, okay? (Dog barking)

Lily: Hey. Um, okay. Looks like we’re just waiting on audra.

Devon: Kind of surprised she didn’t show up with you, nate. You guys have been joined at the hip lately.

Nate: Well, that’s a wild exaggeration. It’s not my fault we keep bumping into each other. Besides, we have business to discuss.

Devon: Yeah, no, I get it.

Nate: But? Finish your thought.

Devon: I’m just speaking as your cousin. You could probably afford to pull back on your work hours and use that free time to try and make things right with your girlfriend again. That’s all.

Nate: I appreciate where you’re coming from, devon, but elena and I will figure things out.

Audra: I hope I’m not late.

Billy: No, you’re not. You’re right on time.

Lily: Yes. Hello. Okay, now that we’re all here, let’s get started. So, today, we’ll be reading documents that are related to the ipo, but first, I want to inform you two of a new development. It’s come to our attention that there is someone who is taking advantage of the stock offering, with the goal of obtaining a controlling interest in chancellor-winters. So we have to stay vigilant and just maintain confidentiality.

Audra: Are we talking hypotheticals, or does this someone have a name?

Lily: Yes. Tucker mccall.

Audra: Your father?

Devon: Yeah, that’s right.

Billy: Tucker’s been selling mccall industries subsidiaries. Not enough to raise the alarm bells, but enough to be sitting on a lot of extra cash.

Lily: Now, we don’t know anything for sure, but we know his history in business, and he is capable of anything.

Devon: Yeah, exactly. Which is why this is raising such a red flag for me. It makes me wonder, do we need to, like, pump the brakes and put this ipo on hold until we know more information?

Lily: Well, I mean, I don’t see a reason to pull back. We just have to safeguard ourselves.

Nate: Or maybe we should zig instead of zag. Go public sooner, be bolder and more nimble than anyone would expect.

Audra: Throw mccall off his game.

Nate: That’s the idea.

Billy: Or anyone else that might be interested.

Lily: Yeah. I mean, that could work, I guess. Audra?

Audra: I’ll see what I can do to accelerate our timeline.

Lily: Okay. Devon, what do you think?

Devon: I mean, I’m still not comfortable with the whole situation, but… yeah, sure. Nate’s suggestion could work.

Lily: Okay. Well, let’s keep our eyes and ears open because we cannot let our guard down. Agreed?

Nate: Constant vigilance. Absolutely.

Diane: What on earth are you two doing together? What, did you — did you call me over to referee? Because after the stunt you pulled yesterday, I don’t know. I think I’d have to give this one to nikki.

Nikki: I can fight my own battles, thank you.

Tucker: Nikki was just sharing her thoughts about my unexpected return. And yours, too.

Diane: Oh?

Tucker: Sit down. Yeah, what are the odds that the two of us would wind up in genoa city at the same time? Especially since we’re both back from the dead, so to speak.

Diane: I have no idea what you’re talking about.

Tucker: Oh, you two didn’t hear that I was almost killed in a car-racing accident in europe?

Diane: [ Scoffs ]

Tucker: I swear to god! No, I-I was. Okay. I got a little too enamored of fast vintage cars. I entered some races, I entered a few more races. The next thing I know, I’m being pulled from a burning car in monte carlo, or what was left of it. Yeah, I was lucky to survive, and I spent weeks in the hospital. It’s eye-opening, isn’t it, diane? To face one’s mortality.

Nikki: Well, diane didn’t face death. She pretended to be dead.

Diane: Yes, yes, yes. I faked my death. I was horrible and irredeemable and all the other nasty things you want to say about me. But that was the past. And, thankfully, some other people have open minds and open hearts, and they’re allowing me to move forward.

Yes. And I commend you for that. You’ve made a lot of inroads.

Nikki: Wait a minute. You’ve barely been back for two days. How would you know that?

Ashley: I can’t make any sense of it. I haven’t heard or spoken to tucker since he left town, and that was years ago. And I’ve tried very hard not to think of him much since.

Jack: And you shouldn’T. I don’t trust the guy. The sooner he is out of town, the happier we will all be.

Ashley: Jack, why do you feel so strongly about this? I mean, I know that tucker likes to play games, but he is the reason why we got control of jabot back, and the two of you were never mortal enemies anyway.

Jack: I am forever grateful that he kept his word and sold jabot back to the family, but he put me through the wringer before that, and I suspect the only reason he went through with the deal was because of you.

Ashley: I know. He wanted to score points and get me to marry him.

Jack: And he was never deserving of you. He treated you atrociously, and I will never forgive him for that.

Ashley: Yeah. I remember when he decided that he needed to do right by me and he was very earnest and quite convincing, until he proved once again that he’s not capable of being faithful. I can’t imagine the humiliation. I was cheated on not once but twice by him — once diane and then harmony, and I was so furious with him. But you know what? I think I was angrier with myself for thinking that he would actually be different the second time around. What was I thinking? I worked very hard overcoming the pain and the loss of all that. And… well, whatever love I felt for tucker mccall just kind of burned itself up, you know? I mean, there was nothing left.

Jack: Which is why I told him you have absolutely no interest in seeing him.

Lily: Thank you, by the way, for turning in that information on tucker. I would love if you could stay on top of it, just investigate it further, see if there’s any potential connection between him and the ipo. And since he has ties to the abbotts through dominic, maybe you can hear something that way.

Billy: Yeah, sure. Whatever you want.

Lily: Well, I mean, if you don’t want to work on this, then you don’t have to.

Jack: Why would you agree to meet with tucker? You don’t have to put yourself through that.

Ashley: Thank you for being so protective of me, jack, but I can handle him just fine.

Jack: I have no doubt about that, but if he wants to get back together with you and you have zero interest, why would you even give him the privilege of seeing you?

Ashley: Do you really think that he came back just for me? I mean, just because he wants to rekindle a relationship with me? Because I don’T. And I know for a fact that things are never that simple with tucker mccall.

Jack: He is absolutely up to something. I have no doubt in my mind.

Ashley: We agree on that. I think it’s very interesting that he shows up in town just a few months after diane did. Yeah, I think there’s a connection. I do.

Jack: Okay. You are entitled to your venom toward diane. But try to remember, after the two of them had their unfortunate fling, they couldn’t stand each other. And his name was right alongside ours as a possible suspect in diane’s murder.

Ashley: You’re absolutely right. However, stranger things have happened than adversaries becoming allies with the right motivation.

Jack: My, are we jumping to conclusions today.

Ashley: Well, I’m not concluding anything. I mean, I am looking at things from all the angles. I mean, you know, maybe I’m a little curious as to what tucker’s real agenda is. Aren’t you? He wants to see me, so maybe I’m the perfect person to find out exactly what it is.

Jack: Clearly, you’ve made up your mind. I have one thing to say — good luck.

Tucker: Well, I have eyes, nikki. It’s obvious diane has made a lot of progress with the abbotts, with her son in particular. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been at the ceremony.

Diane: Yes, both kyle and jack have been very kind. I’m even working for marchetti, which is under the jabot umbrella.

No kidding. You know, I would love to pick your brain about how you managed to come so far. You’ve gotten all these people who matter to you to give you a second chance I’m facing a similar dilemma myself.

Diane: Why would I help you with anything? We haven’t spoken in years, and the last words we did exchange weren’t friendly.

Tucker: Well, I was hoping maybe you would empathize with my situation.

Diane: Oh. Well, if you want empathy, hire a therapist or get a dog. I do not have time to counsel you.

Nikki: Any advice diane may have would be malicious anyway. There is absolutely nothing sincere or honest about her. Although, considering how morally flexible you both are, you two might bond over all kinds of shady things.

[ Cellphone rings ] Hello?

Nate: I have another update.

Victoria: Oh, well, that was quick.

Nate: We just finished another meeting on the ipo. Lily, devon, and billy are all concerned about tucker’s latest moves. He’s been selling off divisions, stockpiling cash, which has everyone on high alert. So the good news is, they won’t see you coming.

Victoria: Well, the bad news is, our friend is sounding more and more like a genuine threat to my plans.

Nate: I suggested we go public sooner to stay one step ahead of him. So that means you need to be ready to move faster than we originally planned.

Victoria: Good to know. Thanks for keeping me posted.

Nate: [ Sighs ] How long have you been standing there?

Elena: I heard the end of your conversation. And I can guess who you’re talking to and what you’re talking about.

Nate: We can’t keep doing this, elena. Look, I already know what you’re going to say.

Audra: Ah, thanks for the invitation. I assume this is business-related?

Devon: Uh, not quite. No. I, uh — I respect jill’s recommendations, but I wanted an opportunity to get to know you a little bit better myself outside the office, just the way nate’s been able to do.

Audra: I’m not sure what you mean.

Devon: Oh, just what I said. You know, we’re all working together on this ipo deal, and you’ve shown that you’re great at what you do. But I really don’t know much else about you beyond what’s on your résumé.

Audra: I hope you don’t mind me speaking freely.

Devon: No, not at all. Go ahead.

Audra: I get the sense you’re concerned about something, perhaps because of the dynamic I’ve noticed between you and your cousin. Is there a problem there?

Devon: What would make you think that?

Audra: I am highly skilled at reading people. And since you wanted to know more about me, you can list that as one of my strengths. It rarely fails me.

Elena: At first, I believed that if I kept telling you why I thought you were wrong that eventually you would see my point of view and that you would understand that everything that I was saying was coming from a place of love. And I hoped that that love would be enough to get you to change your mind.

Nate: I do love you. But —

Elena: I know. It’s not enough. So this time, I don’t want you to stop this because of me or because of us. I want you to do it for yourself. I have already pointed out how this arrangement with victoria could hurt people. But it could also hurt you, too.

Nate: I’ll be fine.

Elena: I don’t know about that. You know how they operate. Victor says it all the time — family first. And he damn well means it. No one breaks into that inner circle.

Nate: Okay, but this is different. I have leverage, and I trust victoria.

Elena: Yes. You’re friends with victoria. But victoria, first and foremost, is the C.E.O. Of newman. And right now, victoria’s goals align with yours. But if her needs change after she gets what she wants from you, she could let you go without a thought. Then where would you be, after betraying devon and lily? Think about it, nate. Is it really worth the potential downside?

Phyllis: Hey, jack. Okay. Do you have a second? I compiled a list of the potential supply issues that marchetti home might have. At your request. Looks like the logjam —

Jack: Could you just send me an e-mail? Thanks.

Phyllis: Sure. No problem. Are you okay? Um… you need somebody to talk to? I’m that person. Seems like something’s on your mind. Or, actually, should I say someone? Tucker?

Jack: Yeah, it’s tucker. And not just because of the antics he pulled yesterday at the house.

Phyllis: What’s going on now?

Jack: Ashley’s back in town, and much to my dismay, she has decided to meet with him. And I think she’s making a terrible mistake.

Nikki: Cat got your tongue, diane?

Diane: Nope. You were just trying to bait me into another argument in a public place, and I’m not going to give you the satisfaction, nor am I going to keep defending myself to you. Oh, I think my order’s here, so I’ll be leaving.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Tucker: Excuse me.

Ashley: I hear you’re looking for me. I’m at home.

Tucker: Well, nikki, this has been delightful, but I have to get going, too. My best to victor. Thanks for the coffee.

Billy: Can we talk about this at home, lily? We’ve got a lot going on right now.

Lily: Yeah, I know, but I don’t think that anything is more important than this. I mean, we’ve been dancing around this for months. You don’t even seem interested in your work anymore.

Billy: I’m doing my job.

Lily: No, I know you’re doing her job, but that’s not what I’m talking about. I mean, there’s something fundamentally wrong here. I mean, you say that you’re committed to this company, and, you know, you’re resolved at being my C.O.O., But it really just seems like you’re just marking time. You know, it seems like you’re kind of just doing what I want you to do rather than following your own bliss. Billy, please, just be honest, okay? Just tell me what’s going on. I-I-I need to know.

Billy: I mean, I think you’re right. I’m trying to be that guy. You know, your — your right-hand man, and it just doesn’t seem to be working. And this is such an exciting time for this company, and I’m walking around thinking, “what’s the point?” I see you and I see victoria and I see jack, and you love being a C.E.O., And you’re so excited about all the victories and the big and small challenges that you get to decide upon. And, for me, I’m just not sure if it makes any sense. You know, bigger, faster, stronger. I’m not sure if that’s my direction that I should be following. And it’s getting pretty tough to try and fit into this world and have some sense of fulfillment. It’s getting hard to pretend that that’s ever gonna happen.

Lily: Mm.

[ Breathes deeply ] Okay. So, I mean, what? What do you think is your path, or what do you think is the right thing for you?

Billy: I wish to god I knew.

Phyllis: I understand that you would have a problem with tucker being back in town. Definitely. I mean, do you think he has some secret plot brewing? I mean, that wouldn’t surprise me.

Jack: Oh, he’s up to something, all right. I can smell it from here.

Phyllis: Huh. Well, ashley can take care of herself, that’s for sure. What exactly has you on edge?

Jack: Tucker claims he wants to make amends with her.

Phyllis: Does that scare you because you think it’s the truth or you think it’s a lie.

Jack: Either way, it bugs the hell out of me. He thinks he can win her back by asking for forgiveness. He can’T. And I hate that he’s taking up any of her time. She doesn’t have time for his asinine games. This is where you tell me, “don’t give it a second thought, jack.” That you agree with me that she would never do such a thing?

Phyllis: Oh, no, I’m not gonna say that. That would be hypocritical of me. ‘Cause I always hang on to the hope that forgiveness is possible.

Tucker: Hi. Thanks for agreeing to meet me.

Ashley: You gonna come in?

Tucker: [ Laughing ] Wow. You look beautiful. You haven’t changed a bit.

[ Breathes deeply ] Uh… I know this is gonna sound hollow at this point, but, um… I’ve missed you. I’ve dreamt of this day for a long time.

Johnny: Dad. I said this one’s fine. Guess you and mom have been reading the same how to handbook.

Billy: How to what?

Johnny: “How to help your child accept his bio mom.” Mom already talked me into a huge dinner last night and made me eat a big meal before coming here, even though she knew I was meeting you for breakfast.

Billy: And why do you think she did that?

Johnny: Obviously, stuffing your kid with so much food that he can’t feel anymore is a part of the handbook.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Allie: Hey.

Noah: Hey, babe. I didn’t expect to see you.

Allie: Hi. Well, I was on my way to the lab, but then I thought, “I’m gonna come see noah to start my day off right.”

Noah: Oh, well, I’m glad you showed up. I need something to brighten my morning.

Allie: How did the numbers turn out?

Noah: Better than expected, but not as good as I’d hoped.

Allie: Okay, uh… what do you think went wrong?

Noah: You know, I comped a lot of people. And I was figuring I’d take a hit, but I didn’t think it would be this bad.

Allie: Granted, I don’t have any experience running a business, but giving stuff away for free seems like a strange way to generate revenue.

Noah: Yeah, I know. I was trying to think long term, you know, build some customer loyalty in the hopes that the people who showed up last night turn into regulars.

Allie: Oh. Uh, yeah, that actually seems like a really smart move.

Noah: Yeah, I thought so, too, until I realized how it affected the profit margin. So, we are off to a really great start here.

Allie: Hey, don’t beat yourself up. You had a great opening night, so take a look around you and, noah, see what you built. I mean, this place is absolutely amazing. And so are you.

Noah: Thank you.

Allie: [ Chuckles ]

Abby: Chance? Babe. You got in late last night. Did you have a rough day yesterday?

Chance: No, no, no. Everything was fine. Why do you ask? You got something on your mind?

Abby: I’m just a little concerned with tucker being back in town. That man cannot be trusted. I know technically he may be dominic’s grandfather, but he should not be anywhere around our son.

Chance: Yeah, I heard he made, uh, a quite the entrance at summer and kyle’s ceremony. A lot of the neighbors called into the station and complained about all the helicopter noise.

Abby: See, that’s exactly what I’m talking about. I don’t want someone like that around dominic. He could endanger him, or at the very least, be a negative influence.

Chance: [ Chuckles ] Well, i think that’s a bit much, honey. I mean, dominic’s one. How is tucker gonna negatively influence a toddler?

Abby: There is nothing funny about how dangerous or manipulative that man can be. You need to back me up on this. Under no circumstance is tucker mccall allowed anywhere around our son.

Victoria: I’m really worried that billy and I made the wrong call on this. Telling johnny chelsea’s his biological mother has been really hard on him.

Nikki: My heart just breaks for him. I mean, this is the kind of thing that could throw his whole world into a tailspin, especially at his age.

Victoria: It really has. It’s shaken his foundation. It’s brought up questions that he never even knew he had until now.

Nikki: Well, I can’t begin to understand how you’re dealing with this, and yet you’re handling yourself with such poise, as if nothing was wrong. I am sure that nobody at kyle and summer’s vow renewal had any idea what you were going through.

Victoria: Well, believe me, every second is an uphill battle. I just honestly have been trying to compartmentalize. And when I’m in work, I lean into work and get as much done so I can get home and be with the kids.

Nikki: So, what are your thoughts about tucker? Any theories on what angle he might be working?

Victoria: The same angle that he’s always working — acquisitions.

Nikki: And is there some reason why you think he might be coming after newman?

Victoria: No. We’re too strong for that, but he can’t be trusted. Tucker mccall always has an agenda. In the past, he went after every big company in genoa city, and while I know he’s not coming after us, I have another plan in play that I think he might be trying to sink his teeth into.

Nikki: And what plan is that?

Victoria: I have it on good authority that chancellor-winters is about to go public. And I have devised a strategy for newman enterprises to swoop in and become the majority stockholder.

Nikki: And how did you find out this information?

Victoria: It’s all thanks to nate. He and I made a deal to work together while you were in los angeles.

Victoria: Mother, nate has become a very savvy businessman, and he feels that the current structure at chancellor-winters is limiting his opportunities. So I told him that I would put him in charge once we obtain a majority stake.

Victoria: Dad’s completely on board. Nicholas is the only one with any objections. He thinks it’s too risky. And I can’t lie. It is a bit of an ethical gray area.

Victoria: It’s a thin line, but I’m certain that nate and i can take care of it. What’s more pressing to me is — has tucker mccall come here because he has the same goal?

Chance: Look, I’m sorry, but you don’t think you’re overreacting just a little?

Abby: No. I don’T. I have seen the pain and devastation that man has caused firsthand. He’s already hurt people that i love, and I’m not gonna sit around and allow him to hurt our son. And honestly, I mean, I’m a little annoyed that you’re not supporting me on this.

Chance: Look, I just think you’re taking this a little too far — because there’s something else that you should know firsthand.

Abby: Okay. What’s that?

Chance: Well, just because someone’s made mistakes in the past doesn’t mean they can’t be a good parent or grandparent today, right?

Abby: [ Scoffs ] So now you’re talking about my family?

Chance: Look, abby, all I’m saying is that I think we need to keep pushing forward, let go of the past, focus on the now, and focus on the future because, honey, that’s all I can handle at the moment. My priorities have to be work and my family.

Billy: Johnny, we’re your parents. We’re always going to worry, okay? That’s kind of what we do. We’re gonna be protective of you.

Johnny: But I really — i don’t need protection. I mean, so, chelsea’s my birth mom. Whatever. I knew I had one. She’s it. I’m over it.

Billy: You know, I don’t think it’s that simple, buddy.

Johnny: You guys are the ones who are making it so over-complicated. I mean, I really just want to get, like, back to normal.

Billy: Well, in my personal experience, when you don’t try to deal with things, they fester and they become problems down the road.

Johnny: Yeah, but — look, I’m really — I’m really not, like, freaked out about it or anything. So, if you want me to scream or cry, I’m sorry, but it’s not gonna happen.

Billy: I don’t want you to do anything. I just want you to know that we’ll be here for you whenever you need us, with whatever you’re going through.

Johnny: I don’t want to keep thinking about this every single day.

Billy: I will tell you this as many times as I need to tell you — nothing is going to change. I promise you. And you also need to know that no one is gonna force you into anything, okay?

Allie: Look how many people showed up for your big opening night. It was a great turnout.

Noah: Yeah, I was surprised how many people showed up.

Allie: Yeah, everybody was hanging out, enjoying themselves, enjoying the music, the drinks. I got to say, even in L.A., I’ve never experienced anything quite like it.

Noah: Oh, yeah? I bet you did a lot of clubbing out in hollywood, huh?

Allie: Okay. Okay. Don’t judge a book by its cover. I took the occasional study break.

Noah: Mm.

Allie: And in my opinion, this place can rival any nightclub anywhere. And I’m sure that, uh, the people who came from far and wide to check it out would also agree.

Sharon: Got it. So, how are things going?

Adam: Uh, nothing has changed since the last time we spoke about it. Looks like things are over between us.

Sharon: Yeah? Well, I’m sorry to hear that. I thought you two had some potential. It seemed like you had a strong connection.

Adam: Well, I thought so, too, but, um…I guess not.

Sharon: Mm. Hey, by the way, um, I had an interesting conversation with chelsea last night. And I don’t want to alarm you or anything, but she got me kind of worried. Our conversation was rather disturbing.

Johnny: I should have just waited at crimson lights.

Chelsea: Hi, johnny. I didn’t expect to run into you here. If you’re on medicare, remember,

Chelsea: I’m actually really glad I ran into you because i want — um…I — I wanted to thank you for all that time you spent with connor at the pool the other day. He had so much fun with you. And he — he really enjoys any time he gets to spend with his older…cousin. He looks up to you, and I really appreciate how sweet and patient you are with him.

Johnny: You can stop, okay? I know the truth about him and you, and it’s not going to change anything because you are not my mom.

Nikki: I can’t believe tucker would have access to the chancellor-winters board. Hasn’t he been selling off his assets?

Victoria: That whole thing was a crock. The only thing that he was willing to part with was that bentley that he tried to give to summer and kyle.

Nikki: Ugh, thank god they didn’t accept it. That gift would have come with a lot of strings attached.

Victoria: Do you think that he bought chancellor board members gifts to get information?

Nikki: I wouldn’t put it past him. Hey, listen, if you can have a mole at chancellor-winters, so can he.

Victoria: Yes, it’s possible, but in my opinion, it’s unlikely. There is a chance, however, that devon made an offhand comment to his father.

Nikki: Oh, I don’t think he would do that. I mean, it’s not like tucker is his business adviser. There would be no reason for devon to bring it up.

Victoria: That’s true. And as far as I know, they’ve barely been in contact the past couple of years. And besides that, devon has been in the corporate world long enough to know that you keep something like that under wraps, especially with someone like tucker. He knows exactly the kind of person his father is.

Nikki: Mm-hmm. A dedicated corporate raider, like you.

Victoria: Now, don’t tell me that you share the same disapproving attitude as nicholas does because I want to acquire chancellor-winters.

Nikki: Not at all. I am simply saying you cannot underestimate tucker.

Victoria: Believe me, I’m not. Regardless of how tucker found out, it would be foolish to think that he doesn’t know something about the impending ipo.

Nikki: Yeah, well, if he does, you can be sure that he is going to make a move to try to take control of the company. So I would advise that you keep your guard up and your eyes open.

Noah: I hope audra’s sudden appearance hasn’t upset you at all. I promise I didn’t invite her here, and I no way expected her to just show up. Last time we spoke, I was still living in london. There’s been no communication since.

Allie: I know it’s over& between you guys, whether she’s 4,000 miles away or just 4.

Noah: So, you’re — you’re not concerned?

Allie: Not a bit. In fact, I — I haven’t given it another thought since last night.

Noah: Well, good — ’cause like I said, she’s absolutely no threat to us.

Abby: Don’t start with what?

Chance: Do not read into the order in which I say things, okay? Work, family. Family, work. You should know now that family is more important to me.

Abby: Well, it hasn’t really felt that way recently.

Chance: Abby, it is because i care so much about this family that I am just suggesting that you take a second and consider whether all this stuff about tucker is based on personal alliances or rivalries — or if you actually have our family’s best interests at heart. Okay? Think about it. I got to go to this meeting. I’m gonna be late.

Abby: I thought you said your meeting wasn’t for another couple of hours.

Chance: I guess I misspoke. I don’t know. I got to go now. Bye.

Chance: [ Smooches ]

Abby: [ Sighs heavily ]

Adam: You found chelsea’s demeanor disturbing in what way?

Sharon: Well, I don’t want to break her confidence, but I did tell her that I think she should get back into therapy. Whatever chelsea’s juggling emotionally right now, it just seems like it’s a little bit too much for her to handle on her own.

Adam: [ Sighs ] And how did that suggestion go over?

Sharon: Not so well.

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Sharon: But, you know, you two share a bond because of connor. She might be more open to you. I think maybe she would be more open to the suggestion of therapy if it were coming from connor’s father instead of me.

Adam: Well, unfortunately, not so much. I already tried. It’s like the more that I try to address things with her, the more she pushes me away. Last time we talked, we got into it because she decided to tell connor that johnny was his brother without me being present. Even though we agreed to do it together, she just decided to push ahead on her own. It’s like she’s in this space where she just rejects anything that she doesn’t agree with. And I’ve just been noticing this downward spiral of hers for a while now.

Nikki: Yeah. So have I.

Adam: Yeah. And I’m afraid that I am responsible for her initial breakdown that she has yet to recover from. That’s why I want to help her. I want to help her for her sake and for connor’s sake.

Sharon: You can’t put all the blame on yourself for what’s happening.

Adam: I just — I don’t understand. I feel like I’m missing something, like I don’t have all the pieces. I don’t understand how all of this has led her to have some new fixation on johnny. Did you know luxury hair repair

Chelsea: Johnny, of course not. I’m not your mother. Victoria is your mom, and i would never try to force anything on you.

Johnny: Good.

Chelsea: I just… you know, um, I just thought since we were already in each other’s lives, I didn’t want you to find out from somebody else and end up resenting us for keeping this secret from you. I didn’t want you to wonder about me.

Johnny: So, it was you. You are why my parents decided to force this on me now?

Chelsea: No. I mean, it was — it was something we decided together.

Johnny: But it was your idea in the first place. You are why my world feels like it was just flipped upside down.

Chelsea: Johnny, I’m sorry. That was not my intention. That was not my intention. I just — I wanted you to know that your birth mother cared about you. I always have, and I always will.

[ Sighs ]& And, you know, I mean, this wasn’t just about me. I thought — I thought you and connor could have a deeper connection as brothers.

Johnny: We’re cousins, okay?! And we know each other plenty. What about connor? Does he know the truth now, too?

Sharon: Adam.

Adam: Hmm?

Sharon: Please don’t repeat this to anyone, but after talking with chelsea, I get the feeling that she’s adrift. She’s looking for answers anywhere she can find them. She’s looking for someone or something just to make her feel whole.

Adam: Well, based on what I’ve seen, that rings true.

Sharon: I imagine that connor has been a focal point for her. Ever since he was born, he helps her feel grounded. But people and things outside of ourselves can only help us for so long if we don’t fix what’s going on inside. And the more and more that chelsea gets goes adrift, she looks around for someone to make her feel anchored. And right now, that anchor is johnny, and she’s clinging to that desperately.

Adam: Yeah, but, sharon, that’s not fair to johnny.

Sharon: No, it is not.

Adam: And it’s just as unfair for her to use connor to draw johnny in closer.

Sharon: Well, I don’t think that chelsea’s intentionally being malicious or trying to be harmful. I think she just doesn’t really know what she’s doing. She’s trying to stay emotionally afloat.

Adam: Well, then I guess i can’t hold her fully responsible if she doesn’t even comprehend what she’s doing is wrong. But as much as I’m concerned about her, my primary focus has to be shielding my son because i refuse to let this hurt connor.

Chelsea: Yes. Connor knows who you are. I told him shortly after billy and victoria told you about me.

Johnny: Mm. And how’d he take it? That well? Huh! Guess that just proves my point. Having this conversation was a bad idea all around. Neither connor nor I want anything to change. So, why don’t we just pretend that we never had this conversation and bring things back to the way they’re supposed to be?

[ Cellphone pings ] Sorry. I got to go. I’m in the wrong place.

Devon: Abby.

Abby: How did things go with tucker last night? Did he take my hint and just leave town?

Devon: Oh, that was a hint?

Abby: I guess I didn’t really hide my feelings that I truly detest the man.

Devon: Mm, you were far from subtle.

Adam: Mm-hmm. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to offend you. I know he is your biological father, and that makes him technically dominic’s grandfather. Ugh.

Devon: Why don’t you tell us how you really feel?

[ Both laugh ] I’d hate to see your full-out warnings and threats to people.

Abby: So, when I walked away, was he shaking with fear?

Devon: No. Not at all. Not at all. The rest of our dinner actually went really well. We just talked a lot, talked about family, talked about him coming to town to reconnect with people.

Abby: Hmm.

Devon: Least that’s what he says he’s doing. I don’t know what to make of him showing up like this. It’s so random. It’s kind of thrown me for a loop.

Abby: Yeah, it was a shock to everyone.

Devon: And from what he said, he’s planning on sticking around for a while and putting down roots.

Abby: And how do you really feel about that?

Devon: Mnh. When you can’t sleep…

[ Knock on door ]

Billy: Got a minute?

Victoria: Sure. Come on in.

Billy: I wanted to fill you in on my morning with johnny. I feel like we’re making some progress.

Victoria: How so?

Billy: Well, his sarcasm is back and in full effect. That’s for sure.

Victoria: That’s a good sign.

Billy: Yeah, it is. He was critiquing the similarities in our parenting skills. I guess we’re both using food as a coping mechanism. I was questioning why he wasn’t finishing his muffin, and he informed me that you already force-fed him a massive breakfast this morning.

Victoria: Oops. Sorry about that. I forgot that you were meeting him at the coffeehouse.

Billy: It’s all good. He feels less confused and less angry. And I’m hoping that this is him coming to terms with the news.

Victoria: I’m really relieved to hear that.

Billy: But don’t get me wrong. He definitely does not want anything to change. And I made him a promise that nothing would.

Victoria: Absolutely. And I told him the same thing. I do, however, have one concern. How is chelsea gonna react when she finds out that this little scenario of hers isn’t going her way?

Chance: Look how happy and simple things are for these kids. They’re just playing, enjoying the day, having fun. Oh, the carefree lifestyle of youth. Mm. It’s hard not to miss those days sometimes.

Chelsea: It’s us adults who inevitably yank all that innocence and free spirit away.

Chance: Hey, is something wrong?

Chelsea: The world is a cruel and unforgiving place. What’s the point in trying to make it any less horrible? Why bother trying to make things better?

Chance: Hey, I was gonna hit crimson lights and have a coffee. I know I could sure use the company, if you want to join me.

Nikki: [ Clears throat ] Sorry to interrupt you two.

Noah: Hey. It’s always good to see you, grandma.

Allie: Hi, mrs. Newman.

Nikki: Noah, this is beautiful. What a fabulous job you’ve done.

Noah: Thank you.

Nikki: Mm.

Noah: Well, I’m glad you like it. Anytime you want to come, vip section with your name on it, overflowing with sparkling cider on the house.

Nikki: Well, now, darling, i must tell you that if you keep comping everybody, you’re not gonna make a profit.

Noah: I am quite aware of that now. And judging by last night’s numbers, your warning is pretty justified.

Nikki: Oh, don’t worry about that. That was just the first night. All businesses need a little time to become successful.

Allie: That’s what I keep telling him. This place gonna blow up, noah.

Noah: Well, thank you for the encouragement.

Nikki: Um, I have something I’d like to discuss with you if you have a moment.

Noah: Oh, yeah? What’s that?

Nikki: It has to do with your time in london.

Allie: You know what? I should get going, or else I’m gonna be late. It was lovely to see you again, mrs. Newman.

Nikki: You too.

Noah: Bye, babe.

Allie: Bye.

Noah: [ Sighs ]

Nikki: Allie’s lovely. It’s nice to see the two of you getting so close.

Noah: Yeah, she’s pretty great. Please. So, what did you want to know about london?

Nikki: Well, um, I was wondering if you came across any artist funds while you were there.

Noah: I reached out to a couple, but I had really limited experience.

Nikki: Have you ever heard of a company called private image limited?

Noah: No, that name doesn’t ring a bell.

Nikki: Well, actually, the fund is called wild beauty, incorporated.

Noah: Why do you ask?

Nikki: It’s related to some questions I have about diane’s time in los angeles. You didn’t live this strong, this long to get put

Noah: Okay, this is all sounding a little odd to me. Why would diane have anything to do with the art fund? She was supposedly living this quiet life in L.A. Wild beauty — they were throwing a lot of money around.

Nikki: Oh, so, you have heard of it?

Noah: Yeah, I knew someone who worked there.

Nikki: Really? Was this person a friend of yours?

Noah: Not exactly. It was the, uh — the woman i was seeing in london.

Nikki: [ Gasps ] Oh. The one who —

Noah: Yeah. Yeah, that one. Her name’s audra charles.

Nikki: Well, can you tell me a little bit about what she did there, who she worked for? I mean, it could be very important, but I-I don’t want to dredge up any bad memories for you.

Noah: Oh, no, no, it’s — it’s fine. Audra was actually already on my mind.

Nikki: Well, I just saw how happy you and allie are. So, why on earth would you be thinking of your ex?

Noah: Well, because suddenly she’s impossible to avoid.

Nikki: What do you mean?

Noah: Okay, I hadn’t seen audra since I came back from london, and then last night she shows up out of nowhere. And not only was she in genoa city, but she was right here at the club.

Nikki: She came all the way from london to attend your opening night?

Noah: She said she was here for other reasons, but — and she found out I opened up this place and wanted to check it out. Yeah, but now you’re talking about wild beauty, and this all just seems kind of weird to me.

Nikki: Yes. Very weird. And very interesting.

Devon: Honestly, abby, i don’t — I don’t really know how I feel about tucker coming back to town, whether it’s for a short period of time or permanently. You know, there’s nothing bad between us. There’s no tension. If anything, there’s just been more distance between us over the years, which is another reason why it’s so surprising that he just showed up like this.

Abby: Do you ever wish you had a closer relationship with him?

Devon: I mean, yeah, of course I do. He’s my biological father, so i would — I would love to have a tighter bond with him, especially with neil being gone. But at the same time, it’s hard to always trust his intentions, given his past. And with chancellor-winters doing so well right now, his timing is a little suspicious.

Abby: Do you think that’s why he turned up so suddenly?

Devon: I don’t want to think that, but, you know, it’s tucker. And he always has another card to play. So I can’t help but wonder what’s really going on and what his real agenda is.

Billy: I don’t want to speculate on how chelsea is going to react, but I will say that she seems a lot more fragile than I have seen her in a while.

Victoria: Come on, billy. We both know what chelsea’s capable of when she’s in a bad place, and it’s not our responsibility to temper that. The best thing that we can do is try to keep johnny as far away from her as possible. And in the meantime, I think that’s probably the safest bet for all of us.

Billy: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: Billy, johnny has got to be our main priority right now.

Billy: I understand that.

Victoria: He can’t deal with this kind of turmoil on his own. We’ve got to be there for him.

Billy: I agree 100%. But I can’t help but be a little worried about chelsea.

Victoria: Well, then be worried about her from afar. Chelsea needs to pull herself together and stop using our son as her crutch.

Adam: Chelsea. Hi.

Chelsea: Is sharon here?

Adam: Uh, she just stepped back in the back room.

Chelsea: What’s going on here?

Adam: What do you mean?

Chelsea: Are you and sharon conspiring against me, discussing all the things that are wrong with me?

Adam: What? No. Of course not.

Chelsea: Are you all — what, you’re all working together, trying to fix me? Is that why you brought me here?

Chance: No.

Adam: Chelsea, calm down. Nobody is conspiring against you or trying to fix you. Um, we’re just — we’re concerned about you.

Chelsea: I don’t need your concern. And I don’t need your pity. And I don’t need your judgments. All I am trying to do is spend some time with my other son. I want to be a part of his life. And I want him to be a part of mine!

[ Exhaling heavily ]
