Daniel: I am so proud of you, baby girl. You and I know that your grandma would be proud of you too.

Phyllis: I’m sorry, baby.

Summer: Lucy, that was so beautiful. Thank you. I know how much you loved our mom. And I’m so glad that you two got a chance to spend time together a few months ago. None of us knew that it would be their last real time together. And now… now, my mom’s never gonna never gonna see lucy become an amazing adult. She’s never gonna see harrison grow up. I really do want this to be a celebration of my mom’s life. I really do, but that is so hard to do when we don’t understand why she was taken from us so soon. Or how. I mean, if only we could know what happened that night. Someone knows the truth. That’s all that I want. That’s all that I’m desperate for it’s what my mom deserves. Answers. Any answers could help my family sleep at night and then maybe, maybe, maybe, then we could say goodbye.

Kyle: Sweetheart, perhaps it’s time to focus on the celebration.

Summer: No, there’s been so many beautiful tributes to my mom tonight, but not everybody has had a chance to speak. Diane, we haven’t heard from you. Is there anything that you’d like to say about my mom?

Abby: Hi.

Devon: Hey.

Abby: Do you believe all this stuff? I mean, this is insane. I am insane. My stuff, it’s grown exponentially. All my clothes, all of my shoes and don’t even get me started started on dominic’s things. This is what happens when you have two of everything. One for when he’s with me, one for when he’s with you. I mean, uh, what are we gonna do? We need more storage? Do I need to rent another place downstairs for extra storage?

Devon: Hang on. Shh. Get your breath, okay? Welcome to your home.

Abby: Aw.

[ Both chuckling ]

[ Knock on door ]

Audra: Victoria.

Victoria: Audra. I didn’t hear you.

Audra: Yeah, you were a million miles away. Where was your head just now?

Summer: You and my mom go way back. You definitely had history.

Diane: Yes, we did, but um…

Phyllis: Good job, summer.

Diane: Uh, this is a time for phyllis’s loved ones. Um, the people who knew her best.

Summer: Say anything. Say what’s in your heart.

Jack: Summer, I don’t think it’s appropriate for diane to speak on this occasion.

Diane: You know, victor hasn’t said anything. Perhaps he’d like to add something.

Victor: I shall share my thoughts with my granddaughter in private.

Diane: That is a wonderful idea and I think I’ll follow his lead.

Summer: Oh, come on, diane. Don’t be shy. I know that you can do this. I mean, you had no problem sharing how you felt about my mother the last time you saw her. So please, just think of this as a chance to help my family grieve. And that’s why I wanted to keep this informal, intimate so that we could all lean on each other and speak our truths. The way my mom would have wanted.

[ Diane exhaling ] For people who are a little intense about hydration.

Abby: This is exactly what I needed. And these flowers, they’re heavenly. We’re actually doing this.

Devon: Yes, we are actually doing this.

Abby: I really, really, really don’t want to leave but there is so much left to do.

Devon: You don’t have to go anywhere. Let the movers handle everything else. You’re exactly where you need to be. And there’s one more thing.

Abby: One more thing.

Devon: Yes.

Abby: Hmm.

Devon: I think you’re gonna like it.

Abby: Oh. My very own set of keys.

Devon: Yes.

Abby: This makes it official.

Devon: Right?

Abby: Mm-hmm.

Devon: It will be really official though when louise brings dominic here because I got him some apple juice and some new baby bongos.

Abby: You’re spoiling us.

Devon: Well, that’s the plan. I don’t know if I can guarantee roses and champagne every single time you come home, but I’m never gonna stop trying to surprise you.

Abby: I like the sound of that. Not the surprising me part, but the coming home part. I love you for this, for wanting me and dominic here, for making this real.

Diane: Fine. Okay. Um, I’m– I’m– I’m not even sure what to say. As everyone here knows, uh, phyllis and I weren’t exactly friends.

Jack: You don’t have to do this.

Diane: No, no, jack, it’s okay. Because what I do know is that she loved her children and that you and daniel meant everything to her. And I–

[ Chair scraping ]

Daniel: Um, I think that’s maybe my cue to speak. You know my mother, um, I don’t really know if I could sum mom up in mere words. A friend of mine once described her to me as fierce. I would definitely say that that is an understatement. You know how when you’re a kid, you think that your mom is the most beautiful person in the world. That’s how I saw her. That’s how I’ll always see her. You know, this is, um… just paint and paper. Um, it resembles her. But my mom, she… she was an adventure. I mean, she crackled, she dazzled.

[ Chuckling ] She was unpredictable– you know, at the center of all of that there– there was this intense, just laser focused love. And it was that intensity that touched everything that she did, for better or for worse. I need to tell you, sometimes it was really hard to– to watch her just waste that brilliance. That sheer power that she had on the wrong things because she was that amazing. She really was and she shouldn’t be gone. No, I mean, not yet. Yeah, even in this, um, horrible, senseless death, I feel like she’s still trying to teach me. You know, she’s trying to teach me how to love better and to fight harder for and I feel like she’s trying to teach me how to protect the ones that you love and care about the most with everything that you’ve got. I just wish I could have learned those lessons while she was still alive. And I’m sorry. I’m sorry that I didn’t understand. I’m sorry that we fought. I’m sorry that I spent so much time away from you and I’m sorry that I won’t get any more time with you. I love you, mom. I always will. Why give your family just any eggs

Victoria: My mind was on a new venture. The risks, the rewards, how to maximize capital investment to accelerate growth.

Audra: Sounds exciting.

Victoria: Very.

Audra: Is there anything I can do to help?

Victoria: No, I’ve got this. Thank you.

Audra: These are the figures for the langston deal.

Victoria: Thank you. Adjusted earnings before taxes total indebtedness ratio. Excellent.

Audra: Yeah, I went ahead and did an analysis on the adjusted free cash flow to, you know, get a better idea of the company’s operating performance.

Victoria: You’re one step ahead. That’s exactly what I was gonna ask for next.

Audra: I like to be thorough.

Victoria: You continue to impress.

Audra: Just doing what I love.

Victoria: Well, you’re providing superb backup for nate, that’s for sure.

Audra: That’s the plan. To give nate everything he needs. Uh, so he can do his job to the best of his ability.

Victoria: Well, he does continue to– to prove himself, doesn’t he? It’s been a while since we’ve had a ceo of newman media with his talent.

Audra: Yeah, I know exactly how gifted he is. You know, his instincts are remarkable. So, it wouldn’t surprise me if he shot straight up the ladder here, you know, or somewhere else. So, it doesn’t hurt that I am familiar with practically every aspect of the projects that matter most to him.

Victoria: Correct me if I’m wrong, but what I’m hearing right now is that if nate were promoted, or if he were poached, you would want to take his place?

Danny: When I look at my son,

[ Danny sighing ] I– I see phyllis’s heart. I know her capacity for love and generosity of spirit, will– will live on in daniel and summer and lucy. Her humor, her brilliance.

[ Danny sighing ] Speechified has never really been my thing, so, uh, I’d like to honor phyllis with a song, if you don’t mind.

[ All applaud ]

[ Piano playing ]

I have a life

I live a life

it’s more like living

day to day just to get by

and it’s okay

’cause I get through

but I know there’ll

never be another you

I’ve got my friends

they’re always there

and someone special

that I know who really cares

but late some nights

a voice cries through

reminding me there’ll

never be another you

I can recall

all those winters and falls

nights of love

that I thought

would be always with us

writing our plans

on the beach, in the sand

but they faded in time

in the wind and with you

oh

I think of you

from time to time

sometimes I wonder

if I ever cross your mind

but looking back

is hard to do

because it reminds me

there won’t be

another you

there’ll never be

another

you

[ All applaud ] She found it.

Audra: I guess I’m always looking for the next challenge. Uh, but of course, this is all just hypothetical, at least for now. But, you know, who knows what the future will bring?

Victoria: Well, as for the now, nate just started as a ceo of newman media and you’re an even more recent hire.

Audra: Yeah, I– I’m very aware of that. I have a great deal to learn and a lot to offer, which is why I want to make myself as useful as possible. So until the day comes when you need a new ceo, you know, I look forward to continuing to prove myself to newman media and to you.

Devon: What’s on your mind, pretty lady?

Abby: I’m nervous, but in a good way. I’m excited and happy and I’m looking forward to what’s ahead for us in the future.

Devon: Well, I know exactly what you mean because after these last few months of being angry, being hurt and making bad choices, I finally feel like I’m getting back to the life that I want. And that’s spending time with the people that make me happy. Which means staying with chancellor-winters and lily. And making a life and a home, right here with you and dominic. And you got me here. I’ve never been more excited about my future.

Daniel: Um, listen everyone, I just want to say on behalf of my sister and myself, thank you all so much for coming out today. Uh, you have no idea how much it means to us to be able to share our mom with you and to hear your love for her. So, please just have another drink, maybe share a story and uh, let’s just keep this celebration going just a bit longer.

[ Diane sighing ]

Jack: Hey, hey, hey. Are you okay?

Diane: Yeah, I’m– I’m fine. Just why did summer make me get up and say something about phyllis? And she wasn’t taking no for an answer. It was just really– it was just really awkward.

Jack: It was awkward. Summer’s lost her mother. I think her grief is hitting her pretty hard.

Victor: My beautiful girl. You just remember that you have your mother’s heart, strength and courage. And you have all of our support. Don’t you ever forget it.

Summer: I won’t, grandpa.

Nikki: It was a beautiful service, darling.

Summer: Thank you for letting me do it my way. I know that you were worried.

Nikki: Only about you. Your mother would be so proud. I love you.

Summer: I love you.

Lauren: That was such a beautiful song.

Michael: There wasn’t a dry eye in the house, you know, thanks to you.

Danny: Well, I– I just wanted to honor phyllis.

Michael: It was a wonderful tribute. She would’ve been so moved. Despite everything, you’re a huge part of her life.

Lily: I loved your speech. It was really, really beautiful. And I could tell it came from your heart. And I hope you know that your mom is always with you. Her spirit, her love, the memories that you have. Because I mean, as much as it hurt to lose my parents, I feel them with me every single day.

Danny: Excuse the interruption. I thought we could all grab a bite to eat. What do you say? And of course, lily, we’d love for you to join us.

Lily: Yeah, of course. I’d love that. Thank you.

Danny: Great.

Daniel: Um, let me just say goodbye to summer real quick.

Danny: Sure, of course.

Daniel: Hey.

Summer: Hey.

Daniel: I just wanna tell you, this whole event was so wonderful. Mom really would have loved it.

Summer: I’m so glad that you spoke.

Daniel: Me too. I love you.

Summer: I love you.

Daniel: Yeah.

Phyllis: You think you’ve won diane, don’t you? You haven’T. I will do anything to protect my family. Anything, and I will expose you for the lying, cheating psychopath that you really are. And your marriage, that’ll never happen as long as I’m alive. My moderate to severe plaque psoriasis…

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue. If you think you have dupuytren’s contracture,

[ Knock on door ]

Victoria: There you are.

Nate: Sorry, I’m late. I had to run back and grab some notes that I forgot this morning.

Victoria: No, not at all. Don’t worry about it. It gave me a chance to go over the figures for the langston report that audra compiled. She also put together an analysis of the operating performance.

Nate: Above and beyond, as usual. She is impressive.

Victoria: Well, that’s one word for it, I suppose.

Nate: Did something happen?

Victoria: You know, while I am, um, happy that you didn’t decide to go back to medicine after the other night’s events, I have this feeling that your coo doesn’t feel the same.

Nate: Still in the dark.

Victoria: Audra has her eyes on your job.

[ Both laughing ]

Nate: Gotta love her.

Victoria: You’re not concerned?

Nate: I’d be a little disappointed if she wasn’t angling for my desk. That’s what makes audra so damn good at her job. Her ambition, confidence. Maybe I see something of myself in her.

Victoria: And you don’t mind looking over your shoulder?

Nate: Uh, the last thing I want to do is discourage her enthusiasm. And there’s nothing wrong with a second in command who’s on top of what’s going on.

Victoria: I hope that that doesn’t mean that you have any plans to move on?

Nate: Oh, I love my job. I’m not going anywhere. At least, not by choice. So, you are stuck with me.

Victoria: Well, I’m very glad to hear that.

Lily: But, thank you for including me.

Danny: Of course. Yeah. I thought it would be good if we all, you know, decompressed. Spent some time with loved ones.

Lily: Yeah.

Danny: Did you know that before your father became a gifted artist and game developer, he was a banana?

Lucy: Excuse me?

Danny: Yeah, that’s right, yes. And lily was a strawberry.

Lily: I cannot believe you told your dad about that. Really? You told him?

Daniel: Apparently I did.

Lucy: What happened?

Danny: Well, these two free spirits free spirited themselves all the way to the west coast.

Lucy: You guys ran away?

Daniel: No, not exactly.

Lily: Yes, exactly. We ran away. We did and we needed jobs, so.

Daniel: And the only way we could make any money was…

Lucy: Pretending to be fruit?

Daniel: Yeah, something like that. Pretty much.

Danny: Ah, you kids are something else. You know, I still have that video your mom sent me of your graduation day. I showed it to everybody on the tour, I think many times and uh, I’m just so proud of you and so was your mom. Not just for the huge milestone, but for the man you were becoming.

[ Diane exhaling ]

Diane: Every time I turn around, she is staring at me.

Jack: Hey, as lovely as all of this has been. I think everyone here is on edge.

Diane: Why is he even here? What, were he and phyllis particularly close?

Jack: As I understand it, he’s here to make sure stark doesn’t cause any trouble. I, for one, am grateful he succeeded.

Kyle: Summer.

Chance: Excuse me.

Kyle: How are you holding up?

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: Even after all of this, I just can’t believe she’s really gone.

Kyle: She would’ve loved it. The wonderful memories, all the people who loved her, danny’s song. I think she really would have liked the part where you put my mother on the spot. Any particular reason you did that?

Summer: Just um, just kind of came to me in the moment. I guess I was sort of channeling my mom, you know. How she liked to mix things up.

Kyle: Summer, what is it?

Chance: Diane, can I speak with you outside, please?

Jack: Uh, no. No, she’s not going anywhere.

Chance: Jack, I’m not trying to cause a scene. I just need to speak with diane.

Diane: What do you want to speak with me about?

Jack: This is a memorial service. A family is mourning, this isn’t the place.

Kyle: I agree. Whatever the authorities want can wait.

Summer: Why don’t we just hear what detective chancellor has to say?

Diane: I want to go home.

Jack: How about meeting us at the house?

Chance: Listen, jack, I was trying to be discreet about this, but if this is how you wanna do it, fine. Diane jenkins, you are under arrest for the murder of phyllis summers.

[ Diana gasping ] Nicorette knows quitting smoking is freaking hard.

Victoria: Solid metrics, favorable debt to equity ratio.

Nate: With nowhere to go but up. These numbers are even more promising than I anticipated.

Victoria: And using the cash we have earmarked for mccall gives us the liquidity to take langston to the next level.

Nate: Your instincts to jettison the mccall deal were spot on. This purchase is going to expand our market share and make one hell of a power statement.

Victoria: Mm-hmm. And newman is all about power. So, we’re agreed?

Nate: It’s a go.

Victoria: All right. Well, then I will call first thing in the morning and I’ll make the offer. All right, work hours are over. How about we have a drink to celebrate? I bought this new bourbon that I’ve just been dying to try. And if I remember correctly, we seemed to enjoy the last bottle that we shared?

Nate: Very much.

[ Chuckling ] You do know what I like.

Lily: Those empanadas were so good.

Daniel: Mm. Not nearly as good as those grilled cheese you used to make when we were kids.

Lily: What are you talking about? You said I burned them.

Daniel: No, they were just a little crispy. It’s made with extra love, right?

Lily: Yes, absolutely.

Daniel: I think that I actually prefer them that way now.

Lily: No, you don’T.

Danny: You know what? It, uh, it looks like my granddaughter could use some rest.

Daniel: Oh, okay. When’s the last time you slept?

Lucy: Oh, no, dad, it’s okay. You’ve had bigger things to worry about than my jet lag.

Daniel: No, no, no, no. Let’s– let’s get you back to the hotel.

Lucy: No, no. I mean you– you stay. You haven’t even ordered dessert yet and that’s your favorite part.

Danny: Your daughter knows you well. I can take her back, and besides, I will enjoy having a little extra time with this little angel.

Daniel: Well, okay then. I’m– I’m convinced.

Danny: Great. All right.

Lucy: Let’s go.

Daniel: Oh, right now? Okay. Okay.

Danny: Come here, you. I love you.

Daniel: I love you too, dad.

Lucy: Bye, dad.

Lily: Have a good night.

Danny: Okay. Thank you, for everything.

Lily: Of course.

Danny: Okay, we’re off.

Daniel: Okay.

Lucy: Have fun.

Lily: All right. Bye guys.

Danny: See you soon.

Lily: Get some rest.

Lucy: I will.

Lily: Bye.

Daniel: Did you see that?

Lily: What?

Daniel: Pretty sure the two of them are just trying to set us up.

Lily: What?

[ Lily laughing ]

Policewoman: Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law–

Jack: Are handcuffs really necessary here?

Chance: Don’t make this harder than it has to be.

Diane: This is a mistake. I did not do anything. I did not kill phyllis.

Jack: This is insane. Diane is to blame for an ambulance accident that phyllis died in? She was at the gala all night. There are people, many of whom are in this room, can verify it.

Chance: Jack, there is new evidence. A lethal amount of toxin was found in her blood prior to the crash.

Jack: Phyllis was poisoned? That can’t be.

Lauren: That certainly explains her stumbling and the way she fell.

Diane: So, you think I poisoned phyllis? That’s ridiculous.

Kyle: There’s no way my mother did this.

Diane: No, it had to be jeremy stark. He did this, you know–

Jack: Why haven’t you arrested stark? No one here believes he’s married to phyllis.

Chance: I am following the evidence.

Jack: And it leads to diane? That makes no sense at all. What possible proof do you have that she’s involved?

Chance: You know what, I’m not gonna answer any more of your questions. I’m gonna have to take her. Let’s go. Come on.

Diane: No, you know what–

Kyle: Mom, I promise we’ll figure this out. We’ll get you home as soon as possible.

Diane: I didn’t do anything. I want to talk to a lawyer. Michael. Michael, please help me. That’s me before dawn powerwash.

Daniel: Can I walk you to your car?

Lily: Oh, no, it’s okay. I’m just right there.

Daniel: Okay. Um… thank you for being there today. And for helping me through the other day. You know, for trying to help me when I don’t even know what it is that I need.

Lily: I think the two of us helping each other will never change. Even after all these years. Get some rest, okay? And please let me know if you need anything.

Daniel: I will.

Lily: Night.

Daniel: Good night.

Nate: Ooh, 20 year old single barrel reserve. Doesn’t get much better than this.

Victoria: I’m so glad you approve.

[ Victoria chuckling ] The kentucky chew.

Nate: I love the heat it creates on the tongue. Experiencing every nuance the bourbon has to offer.

Victoria: Oh.

Nate: That nice, long finish.

Victoria: Mm. Yum. Leather, spice.

Nate: Just the right amount of sweet.

Victoria: You’re an expert?

Nate: Well, when I’m intrigued by something, I want to know everything I can about it.

Victoria: Oh, I see.

Nate: Unlock the mystery. Make it mine.

Victoria: A man of passion.

Nate: A man with an empty glass.

Victoria: Oh, mm. Dare I offer you a refill or is that too dangerous on a week night?

Nate: When you’re offering me something I obviously want, how can I resist?

Victoria: You resisted before.

Nate: This time, resistance is futile.

[ Both panting ]

Diane: Please michael, say that you’ll represent me. Don’t let them lock me up.

Lauren: Don’t tell me you are seriously considering defending diane right now.

Chase: The evidence will be out soon.

Diane: You have to believe me. I did not kill phyllis. I am innocent and whatever evidence they have against me, I’ve been framed.

Michael: I’m sorry, diane.

Diane: Michael.

Michael: Have jack call an attorney and don’t say a word until one is present.

Jack: I promise I will get you the very best representation. Someone who will get these charges laughed out of court.

Chase: Okay, let’s go. Come on.

Jack: I’m gonna follow in my car. You stay here with summer.

Summer: Go. I’ve got my dad here.

Kyle: Okay.

Nick: You okay?

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: I guess I got what I’ve been hoping for. The truth. Diane killed my mom. She always said that diane was dangerous and I should have believed her.

[ Summer sobbing ]

[ Phyllis sighing ]

Jack: Summer worked so hard on these arrangements. She wanted to get every detail just right.

Diane: I’m sure it’ll be a lovely tribute. Although, the location she chose makes me a little uncomfortable.

Jack: Yeah, the new jazz lounge at the athletic club. I was surprised, too.

Diane: Yeah. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it’s an elegant space. It’s certainly large enough.

Jack: It’s also where we saw phyllis collapse after she created that dreadful scene and where– where we all got the news that she passed away.

Diane: Why would summer pick that spot to say goodbye to her mother? Why not choose a place with happier memories?

Kyle: I couldn’t agree more. It’s a terrible mistake.

Summer: Excuse me, I’m gonna go out for a bit but I’ll be back in time to greet the guests.

[ Exhales ] I will make this right. I promise you that.

Lily: Hi. I figured maybe you want to go get coffee before the memorial?

Daniel: [ Sighs] Room service just brought a fresh pot, help yourself.

Lily: Oh, wow, you’re very organized.

Daniel: Well, I was up pretty early.

Lily: Yeah, I assumed that everything would be really tough for you today. Are you coping or are you just shutting it all out?

Daniel: Little bit of both. Today is important, you know? Even if I’m faking it, I gotta pull it together for summer and for my mom. My sister singlehandedly put this whole memorial together. I’m proud of her, you know? I’m also worried for her.

Lily: Yeah, um… look, I know that you’re really overwhelmed and I really don’t want to add to any of it. So, I wanted to let you know that we’re gonna suspend work on omega sphere.

Sally: Hi.

Nick: Hey.

Sally: Come in.

Nick: Thanks.

Sally: How are you this morning? Sorry, that was a really dumb question.

Nick: I’m okay, for now. Thanks for asking.

Sally: Are you worried about summer?

Nick: Yeah. On top of all the pain she’s in grieving for her mom, she’s gotta be exhausted. I mean, she’s been going nonstop, working on the details of this thing with zero help from anyone.

Sally: Not even her brother?

Nick: That’s what she wanted. To be in charge of everything, to be able to create this perfect celebration of life for phyllis. As, like, a gift to her. Could also be to make up for the fact that they had been clashing lately as well.

Sally: Yeah, makes sense.

Nick: Not really feeling this location, though. I mean, we weren’t there when phyllis blacked out, but other people were. It had to be terrifying. And now everyone’s back in the same room. I just– I’m worried that this celebration of life is not gonna turn out the way summer is hoping.

Jeremy: Talk to me. Wait, what? Say that again. What do you mean she was a no-show? She was supposed to be on that damn flight last night. Dry skin is sensitive skin, too.

Diane: Kyle, I didn’t mean to second guess your wife.

Kyle: No, it bothers me, too. Having the service there with all those traumatic memories. But I couldn’t talk summer out of it. We’ve barely talked about anything lately. She’s so caught up in planning this service, we’ve barely spoken in days.

Jack: Hey, summer is a perfectionist, even in the best of circumstances. Staying busy, distracting herself from the pain she’s feeling might be soothing.

Kyle: It’s more than that, dad. It’s like she’s on a mission to prove something. To be together where we last saw phyllis.

Diane: Well, either way, it leaves me with a dilemma.

Jack: How do you mean?

Diane: Well, I’m trying to give summer space to grieve in her own way, but to her, I’m– I’m a reminder of the events that led up to phyllis’s collapse. I don’t want to cause her any more pain, so maybe I should just stay home.

Kyle: That’s the one answer I was able to get out of her. She wants all of us there. In fact, she insisted. Look, do I think having the service in this venue will be upsetting? Yes. But it’s the only support summer’s asked for. She wants all three of us there. So, we need to be there for her.

Nick: Why don’t you, uh, grab a table and I’ll order?

Sally: Okay, yeah. Sounds good. Summer, I’m– I’m really sorry about your mom. I mean, what a terrible shock. I can’t even imagine what you must be feeling. If you need anything at all, please don’t hesitate to ask, and feel free to give me a job at the memorial. I would really like to be useful in some way.

Summer: To be honest, sally, it never occurred to me that you would come to the memorial, when you so clearly don’t belong. You know we’re mourning my mother. Do you really think that she would want you there? Especially now that you’ve glommed onto my father. I hate that he is still with you when you’re pregnant with adam’s baby. That is who you should be with. Adam. Because the two of you deserve each other. So, please just stay far, far away.

Nick: Hey, the, uh, barista had a question about your order.

Sally: Yeah.

Nick: What are you doing?

Summer: Everybody’s been telling me to stop being so stoic, so I was just sharing how I felt. You don’t seem to like that either.

Nick: Look, if you need someone to take something out on, I am right here. I mean that. Whatever I can do to help. Is there any part of the service I can take off your hands?

Summer: No, I just came from the venue and it’s all ready to go. I had one more errand to run and I wanted to grab a coffee, but you know what? I’m just gonna get one at the club, so I’ll see you there.

[ Sally sighing ]

Nick: I’m sorry about that.

Sally: Look, she just lost her mom, I get it. I really wanna be there with you. Summer is the priority right now, okay? And she’s right. Phyllis would not want me there. But I will be thinking of you and I will be sending you support. Summer needs you. Go.

Daniel: You’re suspending my platform, why? Do you not think that I can deliver? I–

Lily: No, daniel, that is– that’s not it at all.

Daniel: Well, then why even suggest it?

Lily: Well, because your mother just died. You’re overwhelmed and I don’t want you to worry about work while you’re mourning.

Daniel: Work is exactly what I need to worry about. I need structure. I need something positive to focus on. Lily, please. My mom, she loved the whole idea of this concept, even if she went behind my back and she tried to find other backers without consulting me first. You know, if you think about it, it was probably the most phyllis thing that she could do.

Lily: Okay, daniel, okay. Look, if– if you wanna keep at it–

Daniel: I need– I need to keep at it. This kind of trauma is exactly the sort of thing that chelsea and I think that the game could help people with. So, no, I don’t want to delay it.

Lily: [ Sighs ] Okay. Okay. I mean, yeah, if you want to keep working on it, that’s fine. Just not today, okay?

Daniel: [ Laughs ] Thank you.

Jeremy: Phyllis. Are you here? Dammit. Hi.

[ Summer sighing ]

Kyle: Anything I can help with?

Summer: No, I got everything under control.

Kyle: Well, it must be weird for you being in this room again.

Summer: I’m fine. You know, it feels right to me, even if no one else understands.

Kyle: What’s he doing here?

Summer: Uh, I asked him to be here, in case stark or any unwanted press shows up. I figured a detective could handle them discreetly.

Kyle: Hmm. Sounds reasonable.

Summer: I need to go touch base with him. Excuse me. Any updates?

Chance: No, not yet. Got your message about the venue. It’s why I’m here at your request.

Summer: I appreciate that.

Chance: It looks like you’re going for maximum impact to unnerve diane by choosing this place. That is if there’s any validity to your theory.

Summer: Well, I’m grateful that you agreed to come so you can see for yourself. Wouldn’t expect you to take my word for it.

Chance: Thanks for that.

Summer: [ Sighs ] Once diane sees what my mom’s loss means for all the people that loved her, there’s no way that she’ll be able to hide her guilt.

Adam: I thought phyllis’s memorial was now? Are you not with nick?

Sally: I was supposed to be, but summer made it very clear that she does not want my condolences, which is fine. You know, she’s under a lot of stress right now, and plus, she found out about the baby, which has made her resent me even more.

Adam: Oh. Does she know that it’s mine?

Sally: Oh, yeah.

Adam: Hmm.

Sally: Yeah. She was hoping it would break up nick and me, but no such luck.

Adam: Well, if I can get used to it, I imagine she will, too.

Sally: Well, I really appreciate your optimism. In fact, um, if you would care to join me, I could use a little more positive assurance right about now.

Nikki: Darling.

Nick: Hi, mom.

Victor: Summer seems to be holding up well.

Nick: Yeah, she’s being strong.

Victor: Mm.

Nick: Too strong, if you ask me. When she breaks, and I don’t know how she won’t, it’s gonna be very bad.

Nikki: Ah. My heart goes out to her and daniel.

Victor: Did she arrange all of this on her own?

Nikki: She wouldn’t accept any help, I tried.

Nick: She insisted on doing it herself as a gift to phyllis.

Victor: Well…

Nick: I think she was, uh, trying to make up for the fact that they’d been estranged lately.

Victor: Uh-huh.

Nikki: Well, all we can do is to be there for her when the grief sets in.

Lauren: You know, your mom always raved about your talent, and I can see why. Your portrait really took my breath away.

Michael: It’s lovely, daniel.

Daniel: That’s, um, very kind of both of you to say. I just wish she was still alive to appreciate it.

Michael: Hey, I think there’s, uh, somebody you’re gonna want to say hello to.

Lauren: Oh.

Daniel: Oh, my god, lucy. Oh, my god.

Lucy: Hi, dad.

Daniel: How is it that you’re here right now?

Danny: We couldn’t let you go through this alone.

Lucy: Grandpa talked to mom and took care of everything.

Daniel: Come here.

[ Indistinct whispering ] Hey, man. You could save hundreds

Kyle: He has a lot of nerve showing up here.

Diane: He has no shame, none.

Summer: I was afraid that he was gonna try to pull something like this. I don’t care about his claims that he married my mom. I don’t want him here.

Jack: I will handle this.

Summer: Jack, no. Please don’t let this blow up.

Chance: I’m on it.

Jack: Okay. What the hell do you think you’re doing here? What is it gonna take to get you to back off this vicious plan to frame diane? Name your price.

Jeremy: She’s guilty, jack. She killed phyllis. And for that, she’s going to prison. And that’s the only payoff I’m after.

Kyle: All right, we’re done. You’re out of here. I’m sick of you harassing my–

Chance: Gentlemen. Gentlemen! This is a memorial service.

Jeremy: Yeah, for my wife. And I deserve to be here.

Chance: That is still up for debate.

Jeremy: Listen, I don’t know what you–

Chance: Shut your mouth–

Jeremy: I deserve to be here, just like everybody else.

Chance: Shut your mouth. Nobody wants a replay of the other night, okay? Now, you’ve had your moment. Today is a private affair hosted by phyllis’ children, and you were not welcomed.

Jeremy: You think I’m here to cause trouble? I’m here to mourn my wife, that’s all. But I think you should turn your attention to the real perpetrator, diane, and stop bullying me.

Chance: Stark, I’m going to escort you out of here, or I will arrest you. Pick one.

Jeremy: Arrest me for what?

Chance: I’m sure I can find a parole violation if I look hard enough. Now, it only takes one. You wanna risk it?

[ Summer sighing ]

Sally: First, some ground rules.

Adam: Oh. Should I, uh, take some notes?

Sally: I don’t want to talk about nick and me. Or you and me. And anything too serious is off limits. I really need less stress in my life right now.

Adam: What about babies? Parenthood? I mean, I could let you in on some of my trade secrets.

Sally: Please do. ‘Cause I could use some. When I think about all that I don’t know, it scares the crap out of me.

Adam: [ Chuckles] Well, you and everyone else who is new to this. I mean look, even if you’ve read every book there is on this, when the kid arrives, it still throws you. Plus, every kid is different. So, whatever you’ve read or you’ve heard or you have planned to do, I mean, within the first few months it’s– gets thrown completely out the window.

Sally: So, learn to roll with the punches?

Adam: Mm. Exactly.

Sally: Mm. Well, that’s actually my forte.

Adam: Look, everyone’s a beginner. They just learn on the job. And eventually, the kid is gonna get older, and then you will become an expert on potty training, nighttime routines, discipline, homework, carpooling. You will not realize how boring your conversations have become, but how fascinating you still think they are.

Jack: Hey, hey, you look white as a sheet.

Diane: That horrible man, he has no business being here, spreading his lies.

Kyle: Stark is behind whatever set this in motion, I’m sure of it. And for him to point the finger at you, I want him out of here and far away from us.

Jack: Let’s focus on summer right now, get her through these next few hours, okay? We’ll deal with stark later.

Michael: It’s not the time or the place for jeremy stark to make an appearance.

Lauren: I doubt he’s ever been accused of having manners or of being a decent human being.

Danny: Um, excuse me a second, okay?

Lauren: Yeah. Hey, lily. Uh–

Lily: Hi.

Danny: Hi. Do you mind, uh– just keep an eye on daniel, okay? For– for lucy’s sake.

Lily: Yeah, of– of course.

Danny: Thank you.

Lily: Yeah.

[ Indistinct whispering ]

Summer: If I could have everybody’s attention, please. If you all could make your way to your seats, we’re about ready to begin.

[ Chairs scraping ] That’s me before dawn powerwash.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue. (Vo) is she tired? Sad? Bored?

Sally: The pep talk I gave you on how to deal with victor and victoria, have you given any thought to my advice?

Adam: Um, uh…

Sally: Okay, I get it. I take it your family is off limits, too.

Adam: If you would like to keep things light.

Sally: Fine. I just– I wanna help.

Adam: Well, that’s very sweet of you, it is. But I don’t know how you would, unless you had a couple 100 million lying around that you wanted to invest, if I decided to make a play for mccall unlimited on my own.

Sally: Wait, that’s the company that they want to acquire?

Adam: Wanted to acquire, past tense. Victoria packed up her marbles, she went home.

Sally: [ Clears throat ] Okay. What I have to offer isn’t money, but maybe it’s better. It’s a distraction. Something that’ll give you some perspective on what’s really important, other than business and proving yourself to your family.

Adam: Well, I doubt that there is one perspective that is strong enough to break me of that habit.

Sally: Okay, well, try this on for size. I have a doctor’s appointment coming up. One that checks for any anomalies and the baby’s gender. Would you want to be there?

Summer: I want to thank you all for coming this morning to honor the memory of my mom, phyllis summers. As you can see, I kept the guest list small and intimate, and that’s because I wanted to be surrounded by the people who knew my mom the best. And who loved her and cared for her the most, and who are also grieving her sudden and sh– shocking death. I know that this, uh, choice of venue came as a surprise to many of you. But I felt like it was important to restore some peace to this elegant club. One that was so lovingly dedicated to the memory of neil winters, a great man with a beautiful soul who did so much for our community. I wanted this place to be remembered as where we honored my mom and– and celebrated her life. A place that we could all come again and again. So…

[ Sighs ] The healing starts now. I also want to say that I am so grateful to everybody who offered to help me plan this service and who respected my need to do it on my own. Because… the fact is, is I– I need to make amends to my mom. I mean, we all knew how infuriating my mom could be at times, right? Could lead to arguments and hurt feelings and… unfortunately, daniel and I were both going through a time like that in the weeks leading up to her death. Our mom crossed some lines that she shouldn’t have crossed, and it left us feeling upset and alienated. I think we both understand now why she did it.

[ Sobbing ] It was because she loved us and she wanted the absolute best for us. I was just coming around to accepting that the night she was taken from us. The night I had– I had a chance to tell her that, before suddenly it was too late.

[ Whimpering and sobbing ] I am so sorry, mom. I’m sorry that I fought with you. I’m sorry that I doubted you and I would give anything, anything, to have you back right now. I would tell you right here and right now that… I love you and I believe you.

For your most brilliant smile,

Adam: I would love to come to your appointment. And I’m glad that you trust me to support you in this way.

Sally: It won’t just be the two of us. Nick– nick will be there, too.

Adam: Of course. Does he know that you’re inviting me?

Sally: I haven’t brought it up with him yet, but, I mean…

[ Sighs ] This is an important milestone, so I’m sure nick will understand.

Adam: A little boy, a little girl. Which one will it be?

Sally: Mm.

Adam: Wow, we’re soon gonna have our answer.

[ Sally laughs softly ] How great is that?

Summer: Once everybody has a glass, let’s all raise them in a toast.

[ Sighs ] To my mom, who loved very deeply, and was deeply loved in return. And who will now be terribly missed.

Man: Here, here.

[ All exclaiming ]

[ Glasses clinking ]

Summer: [ Sighs ] Now, I really do want this to be a celebration of my mom’s life. So, if anybody feels moved to speak, I– I hope that you will stand up and say something, starting with my brother. Daniel?

Daniel: Um… I didn’t, uh– I– I– I didn’t prepare anything, I’m sorry, I–

Lucy: It’s okay, dad, just speak from my heart. You got this.

Daniel: I can’t– I can’t, I’m sorry, I…

[ Summer exhales ]

Nick: Phyllis and I were, uh, extremely competitive with each other, in everything. What started out as a cool friendship, deepened into something so much more. It was a love story. One that lasted a very long time. And it produced this amazing, beautiful woman standing next to me.

[ Kissing ] You know, all relationships have, uh, good times and bad. I believe when someone important is taken from you, the difficult memories, they just fade away. What’s left is, you get the very best parts of that person. The difference they made, that they were a part of our lives. If you asked me to describe phyllis in 10 words or less, I couldn’t do it. And if you really knew her, you couldn’t do it either. She was that unique and complex. She was one of the most brilliant women I’ve ever known. Also one of the most fun-loving. She was fearless and adventurous. It’s so damn funny. When phyllis loved you, you felt like the most important person in the world. But boy, when you made her mad, look out.

[ Light chuckling ] There isn’t anything she wouldn’t do for someone she cherished. Especially you kids. She loved you… so much. She was one of a kind.

Jack: I’m gonna say something. I think most of you here know that, uh, my history with phyllis is a– a long story of extremes. Love and heartache, happiness and despair, marriage and divorce. We tried more than once to make it all work, but I don’t know, we seemed destined to hurt each other. Nick is right. She was one of a kind. A force of nature, strong and stubborn and willful and exasperating and fiercely loyal and… [ Chuckles ] And absolutely certain she was right. And god help you if you ever got in her way. I know this because I managed to get in her way for decades.

[ Nikki chuckling ] I have a lot of memories of phyllis, but one in particular stands out. It was winter, middle of an ice storm. Phyllis was very pregnant with nick’s child and she and I were in an elevator on our way out of the building when the power went out. We were stuck between the fifth and the sixth floor, and we pounded and screamed and yelled for help, and tried to find an exit above us. And phyllis’s water broke. And the two hours that followed are perhaps the most powerful in my life. With everything working against her, with very little help from me, she– she struggled and fought through round after round of contractions. And she held my hand and cried and it– just when it seemed like she had no more fight left in her, through sheer strength and courage and this fiery determination… she singlehandedly willed this beautiful little girl into the world. Summer, your mother loved you and your brother more than anything in this world. Your miraculous arrival in that elevator changed her life forever. And I want you to know that her death has forever changed mine.

[ Summer sobbing ] Here’s looking at you, red. -Fixed. -That’s my son.

Sally: Ooh!

Adam: What’s wrong?

[ Sally groans ] You okay?

Sally: Yeah, I just haven’t been sure if what I’ve been feeling has been the baby moving, but I– I think this is it.

Adam: Wha– whoa. Oh! That– that is definitely a moving baby. Wow. He or she, wow, that is quite a kick.

[ Both laughing ]

Lauren: Phyllis was the kind of friend that you could call at 3:00 A.M. For, uh, bail money, and she would show up. Instantly. With the cash, a strong cup of coffee, and no questions asked.

Michael: Not that you ever needed bail money at 3:00 A.M., Because you married a lawyer.

Lauren: [ Laughs ] Perish the thought.

Michael: But still… phyllis was always there for the both of us.

Lauren: Yeah. Yeah. She’s one of the few people who knew what it was really like for me to be, uh, kidnapped and terrorized at the hands of sheila carter. Something I would not wish on my worst enemy, let alone my best friend. She was her victim, too. And, um, that bonded us like nothing else could.

Michael: For phyllis, life was a rollercoaster. The highs could be, oh, thrilling! And the lows…. eh, could be devastating. It’s too bad that she was taken from us on the downswing. Too soon.

Lauren: If only she had had more time.

Nikki: Phyllis and I had our differences, god knows. But we had one very important thing in common, and that was our love for summer. We were in business together, once upon a time. And recently, we collaborated on a special project that was near and dear to both of our hearts. I came to appreciate how her mind worked. She could come up with very creative solutions to prickly problems, and never, ever give up, no matter what.

Jeremy: Phyllis, where in the hell are you? You are not gonna screw this up for me.

Nikki: Of course, if you had told me 10 years ago that I would be at a memorial service for phyllis, singing her praises, I would have told you, you had lost your mind. But her passion and dedication to those that she loved won me over. And I will miss her. But I believe that her unique spirit can be felt in this room, and it will live on.

Summer: [ Sighs ] Would anyone else like to say a few words?

Lucy: Um, I would, if that’s okay.

Summer: Of course. Lucy, go right ahead.

Lucy: Um, phyllis– she let me call her that. Actually, she made sure I called her that. She was always fun. But we had serious talks, too. She taught me to always fight for what I believe in. And to work for what I want. She flew all the way up to portugal just to try and help my dad and i when we weren’t getting along. And I’m really glad she did. Phyllis taught me to never be too proud to say you’re sorry, because love is so much more important.

Lauren: Hi. Beat me here. I hope you didn’t wait too long.

Christine: Not at all. How are you?

Lauren: I am numb. I’m– uh, all cried out. For now, anyway.

Christine: So many people are in so much pain.

Lauren: I can’t believe she’s gone. I mean, this never should have happened.

Christine: I absolutely agree.

[ Cell phone buzzes ] I’m so sorry. I just have to take this. This is christine.

Chance: Hi, it’s chance. We got the tox screen back from phyllis’ blood sample.

Christine: And can I assume the results, based on the fact that you’re calling me at all?

Chance: Fatal levels of alkaloids in her blood stream, possibly from strychnine.

Christine: Poison?

Chance: Yeah. Christine, this is officially a homicide investigation.

Christine: Okay. Make me a case. I’ll take it from there.

Chance: Yeah, I’ll be in touch.

Lauren: Look at this. Michael took this picture of phyllis and me after a girl’s spa day. We had some bubbly and…

[ Sighs ] I will never understand why the universe chose now to take phyllis.

Chance: Summer. Hey.

Summer: I need your help.

Chance: All right. What can I do for you?

Summer: You and I are gonna expose my mom’s murderer.

Victoria: No, we don’t have to hold back anymore. I’m no longer saving my pennies from mccall unlimited. So if there is some sort of passion project that you want to pursue, or– or maybe some high-end acquisition, then I’d like to hear about it. Great. Yes. Put together a presentation and we can bring in finance and marketing and we’ll get a meeting on the books. All right.

Nick: Good afternoon.

Victoria: Hey. What are you doing here? I thought you’d be spending the day with summer.

Nick: I mean, that was my plan but every time I try and talk to her or offer to help with the service, she just tells me to back off and says she’s got it handled.

Victoria: Well, imagine that. The daughter of two unstoppable powerhouses, and… the granddaughter of an unmovable force wanting to take on the world herself.

Nick: What do you think I should do?

Victoria: Maybe don’t hover so much. Just give her a little space and make sure that you keep an eye on her, though, in case she’s taking on too much.

Nick: Yeah. She could also just be going all in as like a coping mechanism.

Victoria: Which is why you’re also at work today, I assume.

Nick: That’s part of it.

Victoria: Well, you know that your boss is not going to fire you for taking bereavement leave.

Nick: Well, you can’t fall behind, vic, with all of your grand plans and your corporate shopping sprees.

Victoria: I’m planning on putting some of my purchases on hold for a while.

Nick: Really? You waiting for a bigger fish to come along?

Victoria: No. No, I’m waiting for a whale.

Nick: Something bigger than the deal you just passed on?

Victoria: Gargantuan. There are far more lucrative fish in the sea than mccall unlimited.

Devon: Hey.

Tucker: Hey.

Devon: Come on in.

Tucker: Thanks. I wasn’t sure if you were gonna be up for company after what happened last night.

Devon: I still can’t believe that that happened at all.

Tucker: I know.

Devon: It is– phyllis was one of a kind.

Tucker: Yeah. Just a reminder to live life to the fullest, huh?

Devon: Yeah.

Tucker: Cherish the people around you… and don’t take the time you have left for granted, right?

Devon: Yeah, I agree with every word of that. Is that why you came over here?

Tucker: Yeah. If we’re gonna build a better relationship, we gotta start somewhere.

Devon: Baby steps.

Tucker: Right.

Devon: Yeah. Want a drink?

[ Chuckles ]

Tucker: What’s this?

Devon: It’s apple juice.

Tucker: I see.

Devon: It’s dominic’s favorite.

Tucker: Okay. Is it a good vintage?

Devon: I think so. Check the year.

Tucker: No, that’s right. Uh… family is all about give and take and I have something of relative value that I would like to pass on to you. You, um–

Devon: You’re talking about wanting me to buy your company as a backup plan in case the lawsuit goes bad, right?

Tucker: It’s the perfect solution.

Devon: Right. Uh. So, you need to know that lily and I had a conversation at the gala, after they had the dedication to neil.

Tucker: That was a beautiful gesture, by the way.

Devon: Yeah, it really was. And it made me stop and realize just how important family is. And for me that’s lily. So, she and i talked things through and that is why I will not be buying mccall.

I have type 2 diabetes,

provided by…

Tucker: [ Sighs ] Given that bit of news, you wouldn’t happen to have anything stronger than apple juice, would you?

Devon: Listen. I know it’s– it’s not what you want to hear but it is what it is.

Tucker: What is it, exactly? I’m trying to understand your thought process in this.

Devon: Yeah, I’m gonna be going back to work at chancellor winters, so I’m not gonna need to buy mccall unlimited.

Tucker: It is– it’s terrific news about you and lily mending fences. I– I mean that and, um, I’m happy for you.

Devon: Thank you.

Tucker: Um. But… do you really think there’ll be any lasting peace between you with the company going public?

Devon: It’s not gonna be an issue anymore.

Tucker: Since when?

Devon: Since jill decided to keep chancellor winters a private company.

Tucker: Oh. Well, congratulations all around then.

Devon: Thank you.

Tucker: Correct me if I’m wrong, but… that wouldn’t preclude you from acquiring mccall on your own, would it? Having a little something on the side.

Devon: I don’t– I don’t want to have anything on the side or any easy way out. This is my family company.

Tucker: Yeah. Leaves me on the horns of a dilemma, however. What to do with mccall?

Devon: Well, actually jill said that she would buy your company if you weren’t included in the deal.

Chance: Summer, you have more than enough on your plate right now.

Summer: Look, just hear me out. I know that it might sound crazy, but I am convinced that my mom’s death was not an accident and I’m not gonna give up until I know the whole truth.

Chance: We are investigating every possibility.

Summer: What if stark married her for her money and then he killed her to get it?

Chance: That’s the theory that your working with?

Summer: Well, diane has got to be involved. This feud has been going on for decades. She left town in disgrace. She had years to plot her revenge. She threatened my mom’s life the very same night that she died.

Chance: And you don’t think that could have been a coincidence?

Summer: Don’t you owe it to us to find out for sure?

Chance: That is what I plan to do, summer.

Summer: I know how to find out the truth.

Chance: Summer, I can’t let you get involved in a police investigation. Okay? Not only could you compromise the case but if anything would happen to you–

Summer: Just come to my mom’s memorial service. That could be part of a murder investigation, right? Come, see who shows up, study their demeanor.

Chance: Yeah, that is something that we are interested in doing.

Summer: Everyone who cared about my mom is gonna be there and people who wanted her dead. It’s guaranteed to be emotional. Tears, sadness, disbelief, and you’re gonna be there to see it all. Okay? Watch the mourners’ reactions. Study their behavior. Watch diane.

Chance: Summer–

Summer: No. No one was closer to my mom than I was and she tried to warn me. She tried to warn all of us and we just– we ignored her. We refused to believe her. She must have felt so alone and I know how that feels right now. Look, you don’t have to believe me. Just be there. Watch diane. Find the evidence and make her pay.

Chance: Okay. Listen. There’s something you should know.

Lauren: The gala wasn’t supposed to end that way. Phyllis’s life was not supposed to end in that moment. She had so much more life to live… with her kids, her– her grandkids and her new career path. I mean, she was always reinventing herself, from… the computers and the cosmetics and the magazine and the hotel. And I always held out hope that she would find… her true love. And then years down the line, we would be sitting in– in our caftans, poolside, drinking martinis and laughing. And talking about the extraordinary life that we had lived.

Christine: It’s, uh, heartbreaking… to lose someone. Yeah, you– you lose their laugh, their support…

[ Chuckles ] Their bad taste in movies. But most of all you, you… you miss the future that you expected to share together.

Lauren: I don’t think that we’re talking about phyllis anymore.

Christine: Uh, maybe not.

Lauren: Oh, honey. Are you ready to talk about what happened with paul? I– I mean, unless you think I’m overstepping.

Christine: Can friends really overstep at this point in our lives? I mean, we– we know each other so well and I know… that you’re hurting over phyllis.

Lauren: But you’re hurting too. So, talk to me.

[ Sighs ]

Christine: Paul and I had something really special, for a really long time. But now, that– that time has come…

[Staggered breath] To an end. Living with metastatic breast cancer

Victor: Hey, baby.

Nikki: Poor lauren. She’s really broken up about phyllis. A lot of people are.

[ Sighs ] So, what do you think you’re gonna have?

Victor: Oh, I don’t know.

[ Sighs ] What goes best with ungrateful daughter?

Nikki: Oh, victor. What were you expecting from victoria?

Victor: Loyalty, sweetheart. Loyalty. It’s as if she enjoys going up against me.

Niki: That is not true.

Victor: Yes, it is.

Nikki: She was merely making a sound business decision. You can’t take that personally.

Victor: Let me explain something to you. She refuses to buy mccall unlimited. Not because it’s good business, simply because she doesn’t want adam to be at the helm of it.

Nikki: I can see how upset you are about this. But I love how you’re allowing victoria to run newman enterprises without your assistance.

Nick: Well, I can’t say that I’m mad that the mccall deal isn’t moving forward.

Victoria: You were never a big fan of the idea.

Nick: No. But last time I talked to you, you were ready to go all in. What changed?

Victoria: Well, many factors played into my decision. Too many competing interests, too much interaction with tucker. It was just gonna be more trouble than it’s worth. That’s all.

Nick: Huh. You know, it’s a shame that nobody mentioned that much earlier in the process that those were the potential hazards or that you would be better off putting all of your energy and passion into a much more lucrative project.

Okay. Fine. You were right all along. I should have listened to you. Moving on.

Nick: No, no, no, no. Let’s– let’s not rush this. Let’s enjoy this moment. It feels great. So, how did dad take the news that you’re not buying this company for adam to run on his own? Is he on board with this?

Victoria: Oh, no, quite the opposite. And he’s making his disapproval terribly clear.

[ Chuckles ]

Nick: I do not like that smile.

Victoria: Nothing. I was just thinking about how I told dad that if he really wants to give adam a shiny new toy that he can break, well, he can buy him mccall unlimited with his own money. But I am keeping newman very, very far away from that disaster.

Tucker: Now, the deal was devon… to sell to you. Not jill. Not lily. You.

Devon: And why does that matter to you?

Tucker: Because I want it to be a family company. I– you’re my son. And I know that you don’t have much… loyalty to me, but… I want to be a part of your life. I wanna be a part of my grandson’s life and future.

Devon: Well, listen, man. I’m sure that you and I can figure out something. It’s just when it comes to doing business together–

Tucker: The thing is that– that… that I think you need mccall as much as it needs you, because, now, you can like it or not, you and I are cut from the same cloth.

Devon: I don’t–

Tucker: Yes. Yes. No, you are a lone wolf like me. You work best when you’re the one calling the shots, because you– you go with your gut and you follow your instincts. Which were spot on, by the way, when they told you to pull out of that chancellor merger. Right?

Devon: Right. My instincts are telling me right now that I need to get to my next meeting.

Tucker: Wait. Wait. Hold on. No, no, sit down. I wanna talk to you more about it.

Devon: I have nothing left to say to you. Okay? I’m sorry I’m not gonna buy your company. I appreciate you offering it to me. I’m sure you’re gonna figure out what to do with it. And as far as having a relationship with me and your grandson, just keep showing me that you’ve actually changed.

Tucker: I have changed.

Devon: All right. Like I said, there’s somewhere I need to be.

Chance: I’m gonna share some information with you. But I want you to promise to leave the detective work to me. I can’t have you snooping around, jeopardizing this case. You’re not nancy drew. So, leave it alone fine.

Summer: Fine.

Chance: Now, take a breath. Prepare yourself. This is gonna be tough.

Summer: Just say it.

Chance: We ran a toxicology test on your mother’s blood and we found a lethal amount of poison. Now that is all the details that I have right now. But what I can tell you–

Summer: So, it’s true.

[ Exhales ] She was having trouble speaking. She couldn’t stand, and… someone did that to her and they watched it happen.

Chance: The me says that the symptoms do line up with a severe case of poison.

Summer: It was diane.

Chance: We don’t know that.

Summer: Come on. They were up in that suite alone before they started fighting. It would have been the perfect opportunity for diane to poison my mom. Do they know her cause of death? Was it the accident, or–

Chance: The amount of toxins found in her blood was at a lethal level. So that is the probable cause of death.

[ Breathing shakily ] Hey. I understand this is a lot to take in right now. But summer, I really need you to understand that I am at the beginning of this investigation. So, I have to insist that you keep this between us.

Summer: I just found out that my mom was poisoned and you want me to keep it a secret?

Chance: If the truth gets out before I build a case, it could hinder our ability to get a conviction. That’s it.

Summer: How long?

Chance: Until I get more answers.

Summer: Oh, my god. Everybody has been trying to tell me that it was just a medical issue and then the accident. But I knew– I knew that that was wrong.

Chance: Can I count on you to keep this between us?

Summer: Can I count on you to be at the memorial service?

Chance: Summer, it’s your mother’s celebration of life. Do you really want to make that a part of the investigation?

Summer: Are you kidding me? She would love it. All the drama, the excitement. Besides, you already know all the players in her story. So, everybody’s gonna be comfortable around you. Chance… if you want to find my mom’s killer, that is where you need to be.

[ Sighs ]

Chance: All right. Let me know when and where.

Summer: I’M… saving those details.

Chance: Oh, so I guess you can keep a secret.

Summer: I’m just trying to prevent any of her enemies or… the media from causing any trouble.

Chance: Huh. Interesting choice.

Summer: I’ll let you know the details when the time is right. Will I see you?

Chance: Look, I can’t make any promises with any of this… but I’ll see what I can do. Not flossing well?

Victor: Baby, by telling me how impressed you were with my hands off attitude towards victoria, you’re also telling me you don’t want me to interfere in whatever she does.

Nikki: Darling, I would never presume to tell you what to do.

Victor: No, you would just… gently suggest it.

Nikki: Well, that’s what marriage is, a series of gentle suggestions.

Victor: What if I have a suggestion of my own for you?

Nikki: Well, I don’t need them because I’m already perfect.

Victor: Oh.

Nikki: And that is what you always tell me.

Victor: Oh, I forgot, baby. I forgot. How can I forget.

Nikki: And I know that you will stay out of victoria’s way because that is the smart thing to do.

Victor: Well, I can assure you that under no circumstances, will I interfere in what victoria endeavors to do. However, adam needs my full attention. More than any of his siblings. He is my priority.

Lauren: And being your friend for so long, you can’t convince me that you’re fine when I know you’re not. Tell me what happened.

Christine: Things have been off for months. Maybe longer. His frustration with his work and–

Lauren: I thought his retiring was so he could enjoy this next phase of his life.

Christine: In theory, yes. But… you know, the build up… to get to that decision was… intense. And then at christmas–

Lauren: You guys went skiing and you barely made it home in time to see danny.

Christine: Yeah, we went away to see if we could fix things. Not so long after we realized… we couldn’T.

Lauren: I’m so sorry. And I’m really glad you’re opening up about this now.

Christine: Yeah. It just felt really… strange to talk about it. And now, you know, paul’s in portugal and I’m back in the da’s office, so.

Lauren: You know that michael and I love you both. Right?

Christine: I do.

Lauren: And we’re here for you. Oh, honey. And if you want to complain about paul. I mean, honestly, who better to. Who would understand more than me, right? And if you want to talk, cry or scream, you call me. I’ll be there for you.

[ Sighs ]

Christine: Thank you.

[ Jeremy sighs ]

Chance: What are you doing here, stark?

Jeremy: In my late wife’s suite, collecting her belongings. What are you doing here?

Chance: Looking into all potential evidence, which I’m sure you can appreciate.

Jeremy: And just now you’re coming to this room? I guess you’ll have an arrest by the end of the year.

Chance: Arrest for what?

Jeremy: I told you. Diane. She was responsible for phyllis’ death. Now, I don’t know how, but she did something. So, I guess you’re here collecting more evidence against her.

Chance: Yeah, we got all hands on deck, don’t you worry about that.

Jeremy: I want to see everything you’ve uncovered so far. I want to know your next steps.

Chance: Yeah, I forgot that’s how it works. I usually share every facet of my investigation with ex-cons.

Jeremy: Well, I’m her husband. Doesn’t that count for something?

Chance: Yeah. Sure. You get a mention in the obituary. You know what? Now, that I got you here, stark. I’d like to ask you some questions.

will continue. (Lucky) uh-oh the magic’s disappearing!

Devon: Mr. Newman.

Victor: Hey, devon.

Devon: It’s good to see you.

Victor: Yeah, please have a seat.

Devon: Thank you very much.

Victor: How are you, my man?

Devon: Doing well.

Victor: Probably wondering why I asked you to join me.

Devon: Oh, I have a couple of guesses.

Victor: Oh, yeah. Why don’t you give me an update.

Devon: What would you like an update on?

Victor: Well, my grandson, for one, and then what’s your involvement now with chancellor winters?

Devon: Your grandson is doing fantastic.

Victor: I’m glad to hear that.

Devon: Really fantastic. He’s getting bigger by the minute. And, uh– I think you’ll be happy to hear that, after some careful consideration, I’ve decided to drop the lawsuit and give my partnership with lily another try.

Victor: Well, that’s great news. All I can tell you is that, you know, family working together, there’s nothing like it. Primarily when it’s successful.

Devon: Yeah. Well, you seem to swear by it.

Victor: Yeah.

Devon: But, uh, I know that your interest in chancellor winters goes a little beyond friendship.

Victor: How do you mean that?

Devon: I mean that there’s only like a handful of people in town with the kind of money to invest enough to get jill to forget about the ipo.

Victor: Hmm. Well, it isn’t even a handful, you know.

Devon: No.

Victor: You know one person.

Devon: Yeah.

Victor: You’re looking at him.

Devon: I thought so. Now, uh, did you invest for the reason I think you did?

Victoria: I don’t believe you. Dad is bending over backwards for somebody who despises us. That doesn’t bother you?

Nick: Vic, he’s like any other father out there trying to help his kid navigate some tough terrain. Would you do any different for katie or johnny?

Victoria: Adam is a grown man.

Nik: Does it matter? I know there isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for summer right now… or you.

Victoria: There it is.

[ Sighs ] One of your insufferable qualities. Any time I’ve tried to push you out of my life, any time I’ve asked you to leave me alone, you’ve… always refused to give up on me.

Nick: Stubborn, I guess. Runs in the family, you know.

Victoria: You know, that’s what summer needs right now.

Nick: Yeah, she said–

Victoria: No. She’s lost her mother and her best friend. So no matter what she says, she’s never needed you more, nicholas.

Nick: Yeah, I’ll… try to track her down–

Victoria: No, no. The rest of the world can wait. Summer needs you right now.

Chance: Well, I spoke with the county register. I confirmed your marriage to phyllis.

Jeremy: Well, I hope that means you’ll be trusting me now.

Chance: Are you aware that she signed a new will? Had it notarized?

Jeremy: Well, that’s nothing new. A new marriage and all.

Chance: Where you stand to inherit a very large portion of her estate. That’s a big chunk of change.

Jeremy: I haven’t even had time to grieve. Why would I be worried about paperwork and finances?

Chance: That’s a good question.

Jeremy: So, you’re probably working on a theory, detective. So, tell me, why did I marry phyllis?

Chance: The money. You needed it. She had it. You convinced her that you two are a lot alike, wanted the same things. And she was lonely enough to believe you. And then you were in such a hurry to get your hands on your new inheritance, that you terminated your new bride. Now, if you could frame diane at the same time… that’s even better. Right? Keep it quilted means you keep it the best…

Victor: Neil winters was a good friend of mine. Wish he was still around. Having said that, as a father… I have also been witness, unfortunately, to a lot of fights between my kids, you know.

Devon: Yeah.

Victor: So I’ve decided I want to bring peace, wherever I can.

Devon: Well, that’s very kind of you.

Victor: Yeah.

Devon: That is. You didn’t also do it to get a foothold in our company, did you?

Victor: Well, don’t you worry about that because I’m mostly concerned with newman enterprises and will remain concerned about that. Okay?

Devon: Okay. What about down the line when we, uh, may become rivals?

Victor: It’d be great.

Devon: Yeah?

Victor: Just remember that I have an advantage. I invested in both companies. So it’s a win/ win situation for me.

Devon: This is true.

Victor: You know what I’m saying?

Devon: Listen, I also– I appreciate you looking out for my and lily’s relationship and for also wanting to honor neil the way you did with that tribute. It was very, very kind. Um, but… I had thought that you may have invested to keep me from buying mccall unlimited.

Nikki: Well, how’s my favorite granddaughter?

Summer: I, uh, promise not to tell faith that you said that. Grandma, what are you doing here?

Nikki: Darling, even the strongest people need someone to lean on at a time like this.

Summer: Do you feel better now?

Nikki: Yes, I do. Thank you for humoring me. So, what are we doing?

Summer: Um, I’ve got it all covered. At least 95% of it.

Nikki: Planning phyllis’ memorial?

Summer: It’s the last thing that I’ll be able to do for her. So… it’s gotta be perfect.

[ Knock on door ]

Nikki: You want me to get that?

Summer: I’ve got it.

Nick: Vic made me track you down.

Summer: Is this whole family secretly plotting against me?

Nick: Yeah, I guess we are.

Nikki: Yes, we are secretly scheming to show you how much we love you.

Summer: Well, your secret’s out.

Nick: Summer, we’re here and we’re family. You don’t need to put a brave face on, okay? If you need to cry, then just do it.

Summer: I don’t want to cry. I’m not sad. I’m furious. It’s just not fair. I don’t know why this had to happen to her.

Nick: It’s just a senseless accident.

Summer: No. See, that’s the thing. That’s just it. That is what is driving me crazy and I just– I wish that I could make you understand.

Nick: I know. It’s gonna be okay.

>>Nikki: Darling, I know it doesn’t seem like it now, but… we will get through this.

Jeremy: I would never cause phyllis harm.

Chance: Because of your deep, abiding love, huh?

Jeremy: Well, we never know what could have been. If we’d only had more time. I’m sure our relationship shocked friends and family and certain enemies.

Chance: How did you two, uh–

Jeremy: Find each other?

Chance: Yeah.

Jeremy: Age old story of two lonely souls, both rejected by polite society and who found comfort with each other. But more than that, phyllis thought that I could do what no man could do for her, protection.

Chance: From what?

Jeremy: Diane. Phyllis was afraid of diane and what would happen if they were ever alone together. She believed that diane was more afraid of me and thought diane would keep her distance.

Chance: So you married her?

Jeremy: Phyllis saw what everyone refused to acknowledge. Diane is dangerous. She tried to sound the alarm, but no one believed her. Instead, they chose to excuse and ignore all the hatred that flowed from that woman towards my wife.

Chance: Well, some people might say that was a two-way street.

Jeremy: Phyllis was just telling the truth. Trying to warn her family and friends, nothing more. Diane wanted to silence phyllis and the only way she could would be to destroy her.

Chance: And no one thought that they should contact the police?

Jeremy: Yeah, like some disinterested officer could write it off as some petty disagreement? Why don’t you stop blaming the victim and go out and get the evidence you need to prosecute the guilty.

Chance: That is the plan. So, if you’ll excuse me.

Jeremy: By all means. I don’t want to get in the way of your work. For people who are a little intense about hydration.

Victor: Well, devon. Here’s to you returning to chancellor-winters.

Devon: Thank you very much.

Victor: Yep. Having said that, I have to be honest with you, I would hate to go into a bidding war for tucker mccall’s company.

Devon: Oh, you will not have to worry about that one bit. Because I’ve given it a lot of thought and it’s– it’s just not where I’m meant to be. My heart wouldn’t be in it.

Victor: Your relationship with tucker mccall is difficult, isn’t it?

Devon: Uh, if by difficult, you mean I don’t really trust him, then it’s very difficult. Yes. And as bad as things got with lily…

Victor: You don’t need to add mccall to your list of problems.

Devon: Not the man or the company. So, if you still want it, I’m out. You can take your shot.

Victor: Well.. I would be disingenuous if i wasn’t hoping for this outcome. So, cheers, my friend.

[ Glasses clinking ]

Devon: Cheers.

[ Knock on the door]

Jeremy: What’d you find?

Chance: We’ve been through this, stark. You’re not in the loop.

Jeremy: It’s diane’s room. That’s the room you should be searching.

Chance: I appreciate it. I’ll put it in the suggestion box.

Jeremy: Look, we’re all working on a common goal here, detective. Justice for phyllis. Look, have you any idea what my wife went through? Knowing that the person she feared somehow got to her. Was she still conscious in the ambulance? I mean, was she– was she dead when it caught fire? That’s what I think about. I think about what my wife went through. And you know what? I want someone to pay.

Chance: Did you come all the way back here to tell me that?

Jeremy: Yeah, that and if you want to search my room, it’s available. I assume you’re gonna go after the husband instead of the actual killer.

Jeremy: The last time I searched your room, stark. I scored enough evidence to put you away for a long time.

[ Jeremy laughs ]

Jeremy: We know that was wrong. But this time, do it better. Get the truth and make it stick.

Chance: It’s chancellor. Yeah, I need you to check on a commercial gray bottle of strychnine for me. Serial number h869312. Need to find out where it came from, who bought it.

Nikki: Whenever and wherever you need me, darling, I will be there.

Nick: And get used to having a helicopter dad again. Not because I think you need one, but I know it’s what your mother would want.

Summer: It’s funny. I do, uh, still feel like she’s watching over me.

Nick: Well, that kind of love that phyllis had for you and daniel, it never disappears.

Summer: You know what? I’m glad that you two came over here. It’s inspired me to get this done.

Nikki: Okay, I apologize in advance, but honey, do you need any help?

Summer: No. I just need to nail down the most important part, the location, and then I can make the announcement.

Nick: What is so important about the location?

Phyllis: The jazz lounge? What are you up to, summer?

Jack: Hey, nick. It’s jack. I’m just checking in. I’m still reeling from phyllis’s death. I imagine you’re feeling the same way. If– if you feel like talking, gimme– gimme a call.

Ashley: Wow, how sweet. You’re actually taking a break from fawning all over diane to show compassion for somebody else.

Jack: I don’t know why you’d be surprised. My heart goes out to anyone who cared about phyllis. She was a big part of my life, a big part of this family’s life.

Ashley: Yeah. Seems to me though, you’ve forgotten about all the people you say you care about ever since you got back involved with diane.

Jack: That is not true, ash.

Ashley: I think it is, jack. I almost expected to find you down here consoling her because your big engagement news got overshadowed by phyllis’s dying.

Jack: It is amazing to me even at a time like this, my own sister can’t set aside her vitriol for the woman I love.

Ashley: Oh, god.

Tucker: This where the town pariahs gather to meet?

Diane: I’m not in the mood, tucker.

Tucker: Yeah. I should think not. Things took quite a turn last night, eh? Got the whole town talking.

Diane: Why don’t you go harass someone else?

[ Tucker laughs ]

Tucker: You’re the– by far, the most fascinating person to talk to in town, at least about this topic. Most people have conflicted feelings about phyllis’s death, not you.

Billy: Hey.

Sharon: Hey, billy.

Billy: How you holding up?

Sharon: Well, I’m still working through what’s happened.

Billy: Do you have any therapists secrets on how to cope with grief?

Sharon: I wish there were one. I’m just processing my emotions like everyone else. Such a strange void knowing that phyllis is no longer in the world.

Billy: She was larger than life and it’s funny. Everything seems a little less colorful all of a sudden.

Sharon: That’s true. The question now is how do we fill that absence?

Summer: I know that the flower choice isn’t conventional, but neither was my mother. Quiet and sedate just wasn’t her style. Okay, send me the invoice.

[ Summer sighs ] That takes care of the flower arrangements. Now, I’ve gotta do the programs.

Kyle: Let me take some of this off your hands. What can I do?

Summer: Can you please stop asking so I can stop saying it? This is something that I need to do myself.

Sharon: Phyllis’s passing really makes you realize how important it is to spend every minute with the people you love.

Billy: You thinking about rey?

Sharon: This month will be a year since we lost him.

Billy: Wow.

Sharon: It’s hard to believe that it’s been that long. Some mornings, I still wake up and turn over and expect to see him lying there next to me. Sometimes, I listen to this message he left for me that I haven’t been able to erase. For a few seconds, it feels like he’s still here.

Billy: I’m sorry. He was a good guy.

Sharon: He was a great man with a beautiful soul. And in many ways, I was lucky to find a love like that. My life was made better because I met rey rosales and I know that he would want me to be happy now, so I do my best to find things that make me happy.

Billy: The simple pleasures.

Sharon: Right now, it is mariah and tessa’s new baby girl, aria. I have been video chatting with them from portland. It’s impossible to be sad when you look at that adorable little face.

Billy: Oh, no. Babies are like dopamine hit straight into the system.

Sharon: It doesn’t make up for the loss, but new life is definitely giving me something worth holding onto.

Billy: That’s good. I’m happy for you. I’m happy for– for everyone, and please tell mariah and tessa congratulations. And when I’m having a bad day, I’m gonna hit you up for a baby picture.

[ Sharon chuckling ]

Kyle: You were clear about your wishes. You want to plan the memorial alone.

Summer: Okay, then why do we need to keep talking about it? Alone means that no one can help. Not you. Not my grandma. I haven’t even talked to daniel about the arrangements.

Kyle: You think that’s a good idea? It might matter to him, too.

Summer: Then I will tell him that I’m sorry. This service is my apology to my mom for the pain that I cost her in her final days.

Kyle: Phyllis knew how much you loved her.

Summer: You don’t know that.

Kyle: I knew her and I knew how she felt about you. You fought and had differences over the years and made up. A lifetime of love does not get undone by a rocky last few months.

Summer: It was her last memory of us, of our time together.

Kyle: Summer, I am worried. You are running yourself ragged, handling all of this on top of dealing with your grief and mourning. It’s too much. I am begging you to let me help you.

Summer: I’m not gonna leave the details to anyone else, okay? It’s too important. And if you’re worried about me wearing myself out, then stop making me expend my energy fighting with you about it.

Kyle: No, no. I’m– I’m not trying to argue with you. I am just saying that the way your mom’s life ended is not your fault and it is not your burden to carry.

Summer: She was not a burden. She was a gift and she was loved. And this service is gonna show anybody who doubts that just what a force was taken from us all. Hi, my name is tony cooper. Ashley: You brought diane into our company, then into our home, and now you wanna make her a member of our family. When is it enough? When is the damage that she’s caused to all of us enough?

Jack: I am not having this conversation.

Ashley: Let’s just be honest, jack. After all the stress and anxiety that diane caused phyllis all these months, is it really just a coincidence? You announce your engagement to diana and phyllis collapses and then dies?

Jack: You have no evidence of that. That is speculation.

Ashley: I don’t have to speculate about all the misery that she’s brought to us because I have personally lived it. And now, you’re willing to turn your back on everyone and everything that you say you care about and you still wanna marry her.

Jack: That is enough.

Ashley: It’s not enough because I can’t get through to you and nobody can get through to you. I’m worried for you. I’m worried that you’re gonna suffer the same consequences of being involved with diane that phyllis did.

[ Stomping footsteps ]

Kyle: Who doubts that phyllis was loved?

Summer: I can think of two people off the top of my head. My mom’s supposed husband’s, stark, and… his ex-lover.

Kyle: Ex? You mean my mother?

Summer: I’m not gonna forget what she said to my mom the night that she died. That she would be doing the world a favor if she killed her.

Kyle: That was in the heat of the moment. You yourself pointed that out to phyllis.

Summer: I was wrong.

Kyle: You are suffering a terrible pain. I know what it’s like and I understand and am hoping you will come out on the other side realizing no one is happy phyllis is gone.

Summer: That’s not true. Oh, my god. I can’t believe that you still have these blinders on when it comes to your mom. How can you not see it?

Kyle: Okay. Please just stop. You’re spinning out and it’s killing me. I get that you are suffering, but you couldn’t possibly have convinced yourself that my mom would wish something so tragic.

Summer: Not just tragic. Malicious.

Tucker: Were you even able to shed a single tear for phyllis? At least put on a concerned face for jack and kyle and the cops.

Diane: Don’t be perverse. I am not glad that she’s dead and I am sad for those who loved her.

Tucker: Yes, of course, of course. Still, having phyllis dead is gonna make your life a lot easier.

Diane: Well, there’s more of where she came from.

Tucker: Oh, you mean ashley?

[ Diane sighing ]

Diane: Yes. You two seem awfully cozy these days.

Tucker: Mm. Not cozy enough for my liking, but I’m working on it.

Diane: Maybe you could convince her to show jack some courtesy while he’s grieving.

Tucker: Of course, I will. ‘Cause he would show me the same courtesy. So, it’s not even a little tinge that jack is mourning his once great love?

Diane: You’re awful. You know that?

Tucker: Yeah. I’ve heard. Well, I’d wish you a nice day, but I don’t think your day is going to get any better from here.

[ Diane scoffing ]

Jack: I am not gonna play into your guilt trip. Phyllis wasted the last few months of her life fixated on diane, with your encouragement, she chose to spin her wheels spewing hate rather than living her life. Her daughter came back to town, as did her son. She had plenty to celebrate. Instead, she focused all of her energy on rage and spite and vengeance. Her death is a terrible loss! And if stress had anything to do with it, it is stress phyllis brought on herself.

Ashley: Do you hear– you’re gonna blame phyllis, the dead woman? You’re blaming her? Of course, it couldn’t be diane’s fault, right? She’s been an angel during this whole thing. She’s not a victim.

Jack: You think I need to learn a lesson about phyllis’s death? I think you do. Instead of digesting what phyllis did, what happened to phyllis and choosing a different direction? No. You’ve doubled down. You’re gonna get back to the work that you and nikki and phyllis started together. Wasting your days working toward the same spiteful goal, doing exactly the same thing you now claim led to the death of your co-conspirator.

Ashley: I am trying to protect the people I care–

Jack: I don’t need your protect protection.

Ashley: You do! You do!

Jack: Get on with it. Is your life really that empty? Is your heart really that dark?

Ashley: [ Voice breaks ] This is what love is… right here. I’m gonna keep fighting for you, jack, because you’re too blind to fight for yourself.

[ Door opens ]

[ Jack sniffling ] (Man) what if my type 2 diabetes takes over?

Kyle: You’re saying you believe someone killed phyllis.

Summer: It is the only thing that is making sense. Everything surrounding my mom’s death is just too convenient. Like it could have been set up by someone who wanted her gone.

Kyle: Okay. I– I– I think it’s time for us to bring in someone for you to talk to about your grief.

Summer: I’m not crazy.

Kyle: No. No, no, no. I’m not saying you are. I just think it might be helpful for you to talk to someone who’s trained in this, maybe even sharon.

Summer: Sharon? Kyle, you know my mom’s history with her. Why would I talk to her about this?

Kyle: All of that stopped mattering years ago. And sharon knows enough about all of us where she wouldn’t have to familiarize herself with the personalities or situation. Hopefully, she can help us through this huge loss.

Summer: What you’re really saying is that you want her to brainwash me into thinking that my mom’s death was just a series of coincidences.

Kyle: That’s what it was. I know the instinct is to find answers and blame someone, but none of this was planned.

Summer: The more I think about it, the less I think that’s true. And I don’t need you or sharon or anyone else to try to convince me otherwise.

Kyle: All right. All right. Let’s talk about other options.

Summer: I have things that I need to take care of, okay?

Kyle: I’ll come with you.

Summer: No. I’m leaving alone.

[ Footsteps thudding ]

Sharon: Oh, hey, summer. Summer? I don’t mean to intrude, but I just saw summer. How is she dealing with everything?

Kyle: I hate seeing her like this. I don’t know what to do. I suggested she see a professional.

Sharon: But she’s not ready yet to do that?

Kyle: Bad call on my part.

Sharon: It’s hard being the loved one of someone who’s grieving. Just ask nick or faith or mariah. I know that I was pretty tough to deal with at times when we lost rey.

Kyle: I just feel like I can’t win. Somehow, I’m always saying and doing the wrong thing.

Sharon: I don’t know that there is the right thing. Just don’t be so hard on yourself.

Kyle: I just want and need to be there for summer, but I’m dealing with my own feelings. And summer’s personal attacks on my mother, I– what do I say to that?

Sharon: I know it doesn’t seem like it now, but time will help. Heightened emotions will subside. Summer will always grieve her mother, much like you did yours before we knew that diane was alive, but in time, the pain will become bearable.

Kyle: I remember every step of that journey. It’s not an easy road.

Sharon: Now you will go down that road with your wife. And you know what I see happening? You’re going to give summer the best support possible, even when her pain won’t allow her to accept it.

Kyle: What if I am doing everything wrong?

Sharon: Just being there is enough. When I had my family around me, it meant the world to me just to have their support, even if they were just giving me my space. You are summer’s family and the two of you are gonna get through this together.

Summer: How are you doing?

[ Daniel sniffling ]

Daniel: Everything hurts.

Summer: I get it. Talking hurts. Not talking hurts.

Daniel: I– I saw the announcement for mom’s memorial service. You didn’t think to talk to me about it first?

Summer: I couldn’t talk to anyone about it. I just had to make it happen.

Daniel: Right. Right. But I mean, it’s not how this works, you know? I deserve to be involved in those decisions. She was my mother, too.

Billy: I can guess what that was about.

Jack: Our sister has a one-track mind. She’s singularly focused on her loathing for diane above everything else. Her own brother, her nephew, the death of someone who was part of this family.

Billy: Yeah. I’m not gonna defend ashley, jack. I wasn’t here. I was just talking to sharon about the nature of grief in all its different forms.

Jack: You think a tragedy like this would bring us closer together. Seems to be tearing us further apart.

Billy: It’s hard to wrap your mind around. Yeah, I for one, I’m gonna miss her. She was chaotic, but electric, fiery and brilliant.

Jack: Yeah, she was all that.

Billy: And now she’s gone and uh, people are looking for explanations. Someone to blame. It’s not just ashley.

Jack: What does that mean?

Billy: There’s been some comments made, jack.

Jack: About what?

Billy: That maybe diane was involved.

Trelegy for copd.

Tucker: Hi, come in.

Ashley: Why are you here now?

Tucker: Oh, the grand phoenix is being renovated. Got a little noisy. Why are you here? How can I help?

Ashley: I don’t know if you can help. I guess I turn to you like a bad habit.

Tucker: Okay. Well, let’s be bad, then.

Ashley: Are you always like this? Just, nothing affects you ever? Just flip and unaffected?

Tucker: Well, don’t you think one of us has to be, um, levelheaded and emotionally detached to solve whatever the problem is?

Ashley: I don’t have to be unemotional to be effective.

Tucker: Okay. Why don’t you just tell me what’s going on and I– I promise to be as indignant as you.

Ashley: My brother is blind when it comes to diane. You know, I mean, unwaveringly loyal to her. Jeremy stark basically called her a murderer, but it doesn’t matter to jack, you know, it just strengthens his, uh, devotion to her.

Tucker: [ Laughs ] Sorry.

Ashley: Well, you should be sorry, because it affects you.

Tucker: Really? How so?

Ashley: Yeah. There’s no point in trying to steal diane and jack’s thunder, their engagement announcement, by saying we’re gonna get engaged. Everybody’s concentrating on phyllis’s death and rightfully so.

Jack: Get to your point. You think diane caused phyllis’s death?

Billy: No, I don’T. I’m just telling you that the implications are out there.

Jack: Name names. Where these rumors coming from? Jeremy stark, a known criminal with an axe to grind? I’m surprised you of all people would fall for that. Jeremy is blaming diane after mysteriously marrying phyllis, a woman he doesn’t even know! This is insanity.

Tucker: I’m sorry you feel that way. I had high hopes for our fake engagement.

Ashley: Yeah. I was kind of warming up to the idea myself.

Tucker: Hmm.

Ashley: If for no other reason than just to get jack to look in the mirror, realize the stupidity and the absurdity of actually forgiving somebody who’s caused you nothing but pain. I mean, just wreaked havoc in your life and then you do something ridiculous like turning around and marrying that person.

Tucker: I think that person should be insulted at this point, but…

Ashley: Did I hurt your feelings?

Tucker: Yeah, no, you don’t think I have any feelings, do you? But you’re wrong. I am a human being, or at least I’m doing my best to become one day by day.

Ashley: How’s that going?

Tucker: [ Chuckles ] You’re not helping. You’re the only one who can penetrate my armor.

Ashley: Ah. Yet to be determined.

Tucker: Yeah. See, the thing is, you would see, eventually, that I’m telling the truth about the fake engagement. It might start out as a– as a union based on spite, but I’m certain it would… it would end up being a union of love.

[ Ashley laughs ]

Diane: Kyle? Oh! Have heart failure with unresolved symptoms?

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Summer: I am so sorry. I know that you lost your mom, too, and everybody’s been trying to tell me that I shouldn’t plan this memorial on my own. But… when I think about how I treated mom when she needed me the most, I’m just… I’m so ashamed. And I just… I want…

[ Sighs ] I just want the service to be perfect, as my amends to her.

Daniel: Well, I have a lot to make up for, too. You know, neither of us were particularly good to mom recently. We weren’t exactly the best kids a mother could ask for. I just thought we had more time.

Summer: If I had known that this was gonna happen I would’ve– I would’ve tried so much harder to make up with her. And… it’s too late.

Daniel: Look, I, um… I get why you handled the arrangements yourself. To be completely honest with you, I– I probably wouldn’t have been much use to you anyway. I just haven’t been thinking straight and my mind’s been racing. I know that I need to refocus on omega sphere. I know that mom was really proud of what I was trying to build, but every time I try and focus on work, all I can do is think about her. I couldn’t sleep last night. Surprise, surprise, right? So, I drew this.

Summer: Daniel, this is beautiful. This should be on the programs at the service.

Daniel: Just like it is?

Summer: It’s perfect.

Daniel: Right. But, um… I can make it better. I’ll make it better. That’ll be my gift to her. Do you, um… do you have all the– all the details finalized yet? I mean, is there anything left to do?

Summer: No, I’ve got it under control. I was– I was actually trying to find a photo of mom, but this is so much better. It’s almost divine running into you here and you drew this. You can trust me to take care of the rest. This memorial, it’s gonna be exactly what our mom deserves.

Diane: Hey. Hey, it’s– it’s okay.

Kyle: No, I don’t usually do that.

Diane: No, no. There’s nothing wrong with needing a hug from your mother. I’m sure that phyllis’s death has brought up a lot of painful memories for you. And kyle, I will never stop apologizing for being the source of that.

Kyle: No, I– I know what summer is going through, but she won’t let me help her. She can’t let me in. And I’m wondering if the reason could be that I got my mother back.

Diane: Hmm.

Kyle: And she’s feeling alienated because of that. And say what you want about phyllis, but summer loved her. And I think it hurts her seeing how close we are.

Diane: Well, that’s probably not an uncommon reaction for someone who’s suffered a sudden loss like she has.

Kyle: Yeah, but if she feels that way, I can take it. I can. She can yell at me or cry to me. I will be there for her. But shutting me out like I’m a stranger, it doesn’t help anyone. She’s my wife. We should be working through difficult situations.

Diane: Well, maybe the way she’s acting isn’t all about summer.

Kyle: What do you mean?

Diane: Well, if she’s shutting you out and if she’s distancing herself from you, it might be because of somebody else.

Kyle: Who?

Diane: Me.

Daniel: I am fine with you planning mom’s service. I know you’ll make sure that everything’s done right.

Summer: I’m putting everything I have into it.

Daniel: And I’ll take care of what comes after.

Summer: What does that mean?

Daniel: Let’s just say mom’s gonna get the glorious sendoff that she deserves, and then jeremy stark is gonna get the brutal takedown that he’s earned.

Summer: Okay, so, I’m not the only one that thinks that something’s off? What do you think happened?

Daniel: I don’t know. I think that the whole situation just seems suspicious. You know, stark announces to everyone that he and mom got married, as the ambulance is on the way to the hospital. No one, I mean, no one knew about this. How was that possible? And what– what was the purpose? I’m telling you that smarmy son of a bitch had something to do with mom’s death. And I’m gonna find out what it is. (Vo) purina one has the inside story on your pet’s health.

Summer: Someone was behind what happened to mom. I mean, kyle thinks that I’m crazy, but I know that what happened to mom couldn’t have been just a coincidence.

Daniel: First thing I’m gonna do is follow up on that marriage license. Gcpd’s checking to confirm if it’s real.

Summer: Okay. What if it is?

Daniel: Well, then I think it’s pretty obvious. Stark married mom for the money and then he killed her.

Summer: Kyle was saying something similar, but… you’re both missing the connection. Diane.

Ashley: Well, you seem pretty darn confident how things would turn out if we did get, you know, faux-engaged.

Tucker: Yeah, I have faith.

Ashley: Uh-huh.

Tucker: I have belief.

Ashley: Okay, well, you know me. I like that scientific methodology. So, give me some facts.

Tucker: As much as I admire that big analytical brain of yours, love is not about that. And you know it. You know, you don’t show it very often, but there is a romantic hidden underneath all that armor of–

Ashley: Okay? Give me an argument. Come on.

Tucker: All right. Well, first of all, I would absolutely dazzle you with a incredible engagement party.

Diane: Another party? What are you gonna do this time? You gonna drive a tank in or something?

Tucker: Yeah.

[ Both laughing ] Yeah, I might. I might. But that would be– be the first move. I– I’ve got all sorts of ideas, how to wow you and the whole town. You just ain’t seen ’em yet.

Ashley: Okay.

Tucker: Our wedding announcement alone, it would put jack and diane’s to shame. And the rock I would put on your finger, baby, you could see it from space.

Ashley: I make my own money, baby. And in case nobody’s ever told you, money can’t buy love, so…

Tucker: But it can accentuate it. And our love, my dear, would be accessorized with diamonds.

Ashley: Just one problem. We’re not in love.

Tucker: [ Clicks tongue ] Yeah, one of us isn’T. It’s true. Well, that’s why, uh, at first, the whole engagement would be an act, but we’d have to make it believable. We’d have to sell it. So, we’d have to spend all our free time together.

Nate: I think we need to address what happened the other night.

Victoria: I thought that we were pretty clear with one another.

Nate: Saying everything is fine is one thing, but is it really?

Victoria, I don’t want what happened to change our work dynamic, and I hope it doesn’t alter the trust and comfort we have with one another.

Victoria: Nate, don’t give it any more thought. Really, it bears little to no weight on my end.

Nate: I hope that’s the case.

Victoria: Look, if it would make you feel better, I will willingly admit that i overstepped, and I’ll apologize. I apologize if I made you feel uncomfortable.

Nate: No apologies necessary

[Chuckles] Because you wouldn’t mean in anyway.

Victoria: Excuse me?

Nate: You don’t feel like you overstepped, now, do you?

Victoria: No, I don’t.

***********************************

Victor: Let me ask you, how do you think Katherine would feel? She realized you drew a very hard line with Devon. I mean, Devon is her grandson.

Jill: You’re playing the Katherine card, aren’t you? Look, Katherine had a lot of opinions, a lot of opinions about a lot of things, and most of them I did not agree with. But make no mistake, there are times when I miss her like crazy.

Victor: Yep.

Jill: What I don’t miss is when she harped at me on how to run the company all the time. She and I can discuss that in the afterlife.

Victor: [Chuckles] Well, that’s fair enough.

Jill: Just

Daniel: Is everything okay? Are you ready for your arbitration hearing?

Lily: Um, yeah, everything’s fine. I just — I didn’t sleep very well last night.

Daniel: Figured as much, seeing that very large cup of coffee. Did you ask them if they’d sell it to you by the gallon?

********************************

Jeremy: Phyllis.

Phyllis: Oh, god. What are you — what are you — what are you doing, yelling my name? I just made this whole show that I washed my hands of you and your plans for Diane. I — I — I just made a big deal out of it. W-we can’t be seen here together. That’s why we’re meeting in your room.

Jeremy: I just finished my morning workout, and my endorphins are in overdrive. Now I’m ready to sit down and discuss next steps.

Phyllis: Okay, well, let’s do that, but let’s leave before we get busted. Let’s go and get out of this…

Diane: [Exhales sharply] I should have known. Every word out of your mouth was a big, fat lie.

Tucker: Hmm, it’s an interesting offer.

Adam: It is? I, um — I didn’t mean it to be interesting. I just, uh, wanted somebody to drink with, you know.

Tucker: Actually, on the upswing these days. If you’re looking for someone to commiserate with, you got the wrong guy.

Adam: Do you want a drink or not?

Tucker: Uh, I’ll have a bourbon, neat, please. Thanks.

Adam: So, is, uh, one of the things on the upswing you selling McCall?

Tucker: [Sighs] You’re not much of a small talker, are you?

Adam: Well, word on the street is, your company is for sale.

Tucker: Word on the street? Ah. You and I must be hanging out on different streets. Where’d you hear that? Thank you.

Adam: Well, you know, I keep my, uh, ear to the ground.

Tucker: Hmm. Your sister and dad told you, right? I didn’t know you were in the Newman inner circle these days.

Adam: Yeah, we’re, um — we’re tight. We’re — we actually, um — we’ve never been closer.

Tucker: Hmm. I’m sure. You relish your role as the black sheep of the family, don’t you? Having plunged a dagger into your dad’s heart by going to work for Jack Abbott, I can’t imagine that put you on his good side. Frankly, everyone knows Victoria’s distaste for you. So, honestly, where did you hear this?

“””****************************************

Adam: You obviously don’t have your ears as low to the ground as I do. Um, [Inhales deeply] I’m actually no longer at jabot.

Tucker: No, I know that. Ashley told me you underperformed your way out the door there.

Adam: It wasn’t a good fit.

Tucker: The c-suite press-release lingo. Did you also quit to spend more time with family?

[Chuckles] Of course, that doesn’t track, because your family can’t stand you.

Adam: No, Victoria, dad, and I — we have our issues, but, uh, at the end of the day, we’re family. And we always will be.

Tucker: Mm-hmm.

Adam: I know you can understand that, with everything that’s going on with Devon.

Tucker: Indeed, I can. Father-son relationships are, uh, huh, complicated. Yeah.

Adam: Yeah, that’s the thing about Victor me, is we — we understand each other on a cellular level because we are so much alike.

Tucker: Yeah. Yeah, you are. You’re both miserable, ruthless.

Adam: See, you, on the other hand, you are nothing like Devon. You know, him being principled, thoughtful.

Tucker: [Chuckles]

Adam: Yeah, you really botched that relationship. It sounds like he doesn’t want anything to do with you, including acquiring McCall. Which means I might actually end up being the CEO of your empire.
[Slaps bar top] We should drink to that.

Tucker: Adam…

[Sighs] Over my dead body will you ever have anything to do with my company

Summer: I will be very quiet, silent.

Diane: Oh, kiss Harrison for me.

Summer: What the hell was that?

Victoria: Look, Nicholas, i understand where you’re caution is coming from, but I am not gonna pass on this phenomenal opportunity so that dad can use McCall to lure Adam back into the family, which is only gonna make him more beholden to dad, like some emotional hostage. It’s bad business. It’s miserable parenting. You and I — we’ve seen this movie before. We know that it ends in disaster for both of them.

Nick: So, now you’re worried about Adam’s emotional well-being?

Victoria: I don’t want to fight with you right now.

Nick: Alright. Should we reschedule this fight for some other time?Victoria: Hi, Nate. What a pleasant surprise.

Kyle: That smile didn’t exactly reach your eyes. Are you worried about my parents fleeing town? Or Jeremy Stark? Or maybe it’s your dad’s strange relationship with Sally? Or are you concerned about the safety and well-being of our son?

Summer: How about all of the above?

Kyle: I know there’s a lot going on right now, but we’ll work through it.

Summer: How? How are we going to work through this, Kyle? I mean, I… I’m trying to stay positive, but there’s so much going on, and I haven’t even told you about the run-in that I had with my mom earlier today.

Kyle: What happened with Phyllis?

Summer: I just have a bad feeling.

Kyle: About what?

Summer: I thought that she was letting go of her obsession with Diane, she was going to focus on rebuilding her relationships with me and Daniel. But now that that doesn’t seem to be working out for her.

********************************

Audra: You know, I really admire you. Your laser-like focus on achieving your goals is inspiring. You decide you want McCall Unlimited, and nothing will stand in your way. And, you know, despite how much you obviously value your own family, you don’t hesitate to get in the middle of other families. You know, like when you worked with Nate to acquire Chancellor-Winters.

Victoria: That was strictly a business proposition.

Audra: Yeah, but you understand that people are responsible for their own choices. You focus on Newman’s bottom line and not on Nate ruining his relationship with his cousins. And now you’re not at all afraid of getting between a father and son.

Victoria: You know, unlike the people that you just named, the Newman family has always been united. Even when we’re fighting and struggling to see eye-to-eye, our allegiances are very clearly defined and unquestionable.

Audra: I suppose few families can claim that.

Victoria: And if one family member can be swayed in a particular direction, they’re the weak link, and the person doing the swaying, they’re not the issue, right? Because everybody has to be pulling together in the same direction, working for the same goal on the same page, or else everything falls apart.

Audra: So, just to be clear, we’re talking about swaying Tucker away from Devon, right?

Nick: So, I basically laid down the law with Summer. I told her she needs to have an open mind about our relationship.

Sally: I hate to cause friction between you and your daughter.

Nick: Ah, don’t worry about it. She and I are crazy close. We’re strong enough to get through it.

Sally: Well, I don’t doubt that. Must be nice to be so strong.
Nick: It is a heavy burden at times.

Sally: Mm-hmm, of course it is.

[Both chuckle] I could definitely use some of that strength. I really need to get my life together.

Nick: What do you mean?

*********************************

Nikki: Sally is pregnant? Oh, my god. I had no idea.

Summer: Yes, Sally is having a baby, but it’s not dad’s. It’s Adam’s.

Nikki: [Gasps] Hallelujah! No. No, no, this is still a mess.

Summer: It’s what she does best.

Nikki: I have seen Nicholas almost every day at the office, and he hasn’t said anything. And I’ll bet Victor doesn’t know. He would have said something.

Summer: Um, here’s the thing, grandma. I know that it’s a lot to ask, but could you please not tell grandpa about this? At least, until dad or Adam gets a chance to tell him.

Nikki: That he’s having another grandchild? I-I don’t know. I mean, for me to know and not tell him…

Summer: I know. I know. I know. It was really unfair for me to dump all of this on you, but I just — I needed to talk to somebody who would be just as horrified as I am, but the thing is, if grandpa confronts dad about this before he’s ready, it’s gonna cause this huge conflict. And nobody wants that, right?

Nikki: Wow. As rationalizations go, that’s — that’s a bit of a stretch, Summer. But…alright. For the sake of the baby. It’s not healthy to have stress during pregnancy.

Summer: Thank you.

Nikki: I wish that Nicholas would tell Victor already, but he’s probably too embarrassed and upset, doesn’t want to talk about it.

Ashley: [Laughs] That’s funny.

Billy: I mean, he’s got to really not love this entanglement that you —

Ashley: Jack doesn’t have any credibility.

Billy: Why?

Ashley: Well, obviously because of his relationship with Diane. I mean, he moved her in. And I never thought of a house as big as ours could feel crowded, but indeed it does.

Lily: Well, of course I have. I believe in you, and I believe in the project. And that’s why I feel like, no matter what has happened with Heather and no matter how you feel about it, this venture is way too important to walk away from. You’ve put too much time and energy into it.

Billy: Listen, Chelsea, come on. It’s not an opinion. It’s a fact.  Billy Abbott is a self-serving walking train wreck who cannot possibly have your best interests at heart. You deserve so much better than that.

Chelsea: Is that a fact?

Adam: It’s absolutely a fact.

Chelsea: Why can’t you just let go of this animosity and be happy for me that I’m in a good place? You know, I’m doing all the work, and good things are finally happening for me.

Kyle: So, all the sudden, you’re going to be the understanding uncle?

Billy: [Chuckles] Your dad said you’re on the fence, but he believes eventually you’ll come back around. Is he right about that?

Kyle: Time will tell.

Billy: Look, Kyle, it’s understandable you’d have mixed feelings about all this.

Kyle: I want my parents to be happy. If they can do that together, I’m all for it. It’d be cool for them to have a stable relationship after all these years.

Billy: But you’re worried that someone’s gonna get hurt.

Kyle: I’d hate to see that happen. And given their history….
Billy: Yeah. I hear you there.

Kyle: Look, if I’m telling the truth, I’m more worried about my mom hurting my dad than the other way around. I know she’s worked so hard to turn her life around. She’s trying to be a better person, and I love that. And I don’t doubt her feelings towards him.

Billy: But it’s impossible to forget what’s happened in the past, the way she just up and left you as a kid. You know, I haven’t been through what you have, but I can relate on some level.

Kyle: How so?

Billy: Well, my mom, Jill, wasn’t exactly a doting maternal presence in my life when I was young. In fact, she still isn’t. You know, I think I broke the family record for being the youngest kid sent off to boarding school.

Phyllis: Yeah. Summer? Hello. It’s your mother. Yeah. Your mom. You only have one of those. I gave birth to you in an elevator. An elevator. Call me back. You can’t avoid me forever. Please…call me back.

[Cellphone thuds]

voicemail. I could tell. There was only one and a half rings. So, you’re trying to avoid me, too. Okay, well, I’ll just tell you what I told your sister. Call me back. You can’t avoid me.

[Sighs] Mnh. Hey, Daniel! I know you made it go to

[Voice breaking] You only have one mom.

Michael: Oh, she —

Lauren: Ohh.

Michael: She’s drunk. The Phyllis train is off the rails.

************************************

Phyllis: [Inhales sharply] My children. Children [Gasps] Can break your heart.

[Sighs]

Lauren: You are not wrong there.

Phyllis: They think that I’m the cause of their problems and that, um, I’m interfering in their life.

Michael: Because you are, aren’t you?

Phyllis: What the hell kind of question is that? “Because you are, aren’t you?” Seriously? All I’m trying to do is help my children.

Lauren: Okay, well, we know you have the best intentions when it comes to Daniel and Summer.

Phyllis: Yeah, yeah, yeah. That’s it. That’s it. That’s it — the best intentions. That’s all you have to say. And I do. And I’m trying to help my children. And for some reason, they’re turning it around that all their problems in their life are because of me and I am the cause of all their issues. And I am so tired of it.

[Sighs] What is that? You just looked at each other. You think I’m to blame, too?

Michael: We didn’t say that.

Lauren: Yeah. We’re here for you.

Phyllis: No, you’re not.

Lauren: Like we always are.

Phyllis: No, you’re not. Blah.

[Laughs] Your words are so meaningless to me now. So meaningless. I see you guys with your shifty eyes. “Ohh. Phyllis is wrong. Phyllis is on a tear. There’s something wrong with Phyllis.” You know what? I don’t want your “advice.” I don’t want it. The only person that I can rely on is this, this beautiful person right here, this drink. Mm! And myself.

Lily: Devon, you have got to stop acting like you are the only one who can carry on his legacy.

Devon: Well, why am I the only one trying to protect the company that he left behind?

Lily: Saving Hamilton-Winters is not going to bring dad back. And if it did, I would be right there with you, fighting. But it’s not. So, you’re wrong. And if it takes a judge to prove that to you, then so be it.

Devon: So, this is you just saying you don’t give a damn?

Lily: Actually, no, it’s the opposite. My dad was more than a name, and he was definitely more than a company. He transcends that. So, you know what? Start a new company. Or take the money that we offered you and retire. I don’t care. But if you go down this path, I guarantee you will regret it.

Devon: I never thought I’d say this in a million years, but I’m almost glad Neil isn’t here to see who you’ve turned into.

********************************************

Lily: Sorry, I’m unbelievable?

Devon: Yes, you are.

Lily: You’re the one who won’t honor a contract that you signed. You won’t take the money that we offered you. You want to burn everything to the ground. So here we are.

Devon: Yeah, here we are, with you willing to sacrifice our relationship for a business deal that went bad.

Lily: Because you won’t loosen your grip on dad’s company.

Devon: And what’s wrong with me trying to preserve his memory like that,Lily? Really? What is it? I mean, after everything he taught us, after everything he did for us, how can you turn your back on him like that?

Lily: [Sighs] Devon, I am warning you. Do not go there. And you still have your biological father, Tucker.

Devon: You have your biologic– you got Malcolm.

Lily: Tucker is here in Genoa City. He wants a relationship with you. You have a young son who you get to see every single day. My children have their own life. This is all I have left.

Devon: What are you talking about it’s all you — you have me. I’m here in town with you. And I never wanted you to feel alone in any of this. You’re the one that’s made the decision to side with Jill in this IPO move. So, what was I meant to do?

Lily: Honor the contract that you signed.

Devon: Yeah. You know, say whatever you want about Tucker. He will never fill Neil’s shoes.

Summer: I’m sorry. I just — I really don’t have the time or the energy to get into it with you right now. And, you know, just so you know, I’ve talked to Daniel since the last time we saw each other, and he filled me in on all of the fallout from you butting into his life, too.

Phyllis: Oh. Wow. So, this is how it’s gonna be? You and Daniel against me, talking together, commiserating against me?

Summer: I’m not gonna speak for Daniel, but I can’t just brush aside my feelings. You interfering with Stark — that could have put us all in serious danger. And you interfering in Daniel’s life, both professionally and personally, could have ruined his deal with chancellor-winters and caused irreparable damage in his relationship with heather.

Phyllis: Okay, got it, got it, got it. I mean, all I’m hearing from you is “could have, could have, could have.” It didn’t happen. It certainly didn’t happen. Why do you and your brother refuse to see that?

Summer: Because it’s not the point! It’s not the point. Mom, this is just another example of how you choose to operate. And it doesn’t matter how many times you promise that you’re gonna make it right or that you’re gonna change. It’s really — it’s actually — it’s pointless. And, honestly, I just — I can’t keep showing up for it.

**********†************************

Ashley: So, did you pitch your heart out?

Tucker: I did. I think I did a pretty good job. Uh, I made the offer and explained my reasons in equal parts emotional appeal and bottom-line business considerations. He didn’t accept it, but he also didn’t reject it outright, so…

Ashley: Hmm. I guess you have your work cut out for you.

Tucker: I don’t know what else I could possibly do. I told him he should talk to Abby, actually, so maybe you have some sway there?

Ashley: Oh, I think we should leave the two friends out of this.
Tucker: Friends? Really?

Ashley: Yeah.

Tucker: I don’t know. I get a sense there’s something deeper going on there.

Ashley: I think you need to keep your focus on Devon.

Tucker: Yes, boss. I’m curious. What do you plan to do with little old me, should I fail?

Ashley: I haven’t made up my mind. But I do have a couple ideas.

Sally: [ Big breaths ] Nate.

Nate: Hey.

Sally: Hey. Hey.

Nate: How’s it going?

Sally: Um, not great. Actually, I’m– I’m really sorry to bother you, but I’m– I’m not feeling very well.

Nate: Okay. Uh, in– in what way? What’s the problem?

Sally: I think something might be wrong with my baby.

Detective chancellor: Yeah, this is detective chancellor. I was hoping to find out when I could expect the toxicology report on the blood that was drawn from phyllis summers. I apologize for the rush request. I understand that these things take time. I could just really use this one as soon as possible. Okay. Thank you. Thank you for understanding. Yeah, I’ll be expecting your call. All right.

Abby: Hi, chance.

Adam: Hey sharon. Can I, uh, get my usual?

Sharon: Uh. I’m sorry, what?

Adam: Uh, I was just trying to order some coffee. Everything okay?

Sharon: Yeah. Um… I’m just having a hard time focusing this morning. I guess I’m still processing. Wait, you don’t know.

Adam: Uh, apparently not. What is it that I don’t know?

Sharon: Well, there’s no easy way to say this, but… last night phyllis passed away.

Devon: Hey.

Lily: Hey.

Devon: Thank you for coming over. Yeah. I– I know it’s been a heavy morning. How you doing?

Lily: I mean, I don’t know. I was with daniel last night. I will say I know phyllis wasn’t everyone’s favorite person, but she loved her kids, and her kids loved her.

Devon: Yeah. Of course. They have to be in shock right now.

Lily: Yeah.

Devon: There’s just… nothing ever prepares you for losing a parent this young in life. I’m sure daniel’s grateful though to have you around since, you know exactly what he’s going through.

Lily: Yeah. Well, I wish you and I didn’t know it so well.

Devon: Me too. But… when you deal with loss, they can make you put things into perspective and realize that you can’t wait around to right the wrongs in your life. You have to do it now while you’re here, and while you can. Which is one of the reasons why I asked you to come over, actually. I want to continue our conversation about chancellor-winters.

Victor: Thank you, sweetheart.

Victoria: I can’t stop thinking about nicholas.

Victor: Yeah.

Victoria: How’s he doing?

Victor: I think he needs some time.

Victoria: Poor summer. My heart goes out to her.

Nikki: Thank you. I know. We saw her this morning. She seems to be teetering between being too composed and on the verge of a breakdown. And she’s insisting on planning phyllis’ memorial.

Victoria: Well, she shouldn’t have to deal with that right now. I can help her.

Nikki: No, she doesn’t want any help.

Victoria: Well, that’s crazy. She’s in no shape to take that on.

Nikki: No, she’s not. But those are her wishes. So, I just told her that we’re there for her and ready to help her with whatever she needs, and we’ll give her her space.

Victoria: Well, then I guess I shouldn’t go see her today.

Nikki: It might be better if you wait for her emotions to settle down a bit.

Victor: By the way, sweetheart. You saw tucker? How did that go?

Victoria: Oh, well, that’s very easy to answer. Nowhere.

Victor: What? You weren’t able to make any headway with him?

Victoria: I withdrew our offer to buy the company. I’m no longer interested in mccall unlimited.

Victor: Why would

Victor: Why would you withdraw the offer?

Victoria: It’s already been too much of a headache and I can only see more migraines in the future.

Victor: You know damn well that a deal of this size brings with it headaches.

Victoria: Well, in this case, the– the pitfalls outweigh any upside, both for the company and for the family. I just don’t think it’s worth it, dad. And I told tucker myself last night.

Victor: This was not your decision to make alone. You should have consulted with your father.

Victoria: I am the ceo of newman enterprises, aren’t I?

Victor: Are you forgetting who put you in this chair?

Victoria: Then I take it that you don’t agree with my decision.

Victor: No, I don’T. And all this nonsense about headaches and obstacles. The real issue is adam, isn’t it?

Victoria: You’re mistaken. Adam is your concern. For me, it’s all about the business and what’s best for the business.

Victor: That’s what you keep on saying.

Victoria: Yes. Well, I’ve reevaluated the pros and the cons and the potential risks. Now, you know what? I just changed my mind. Yes, dad. And you know what? There’s no potential room for growth. There’s just not. I would be so happy to show you the numbers.

Victor: And I’m sure you called all the numbers to support your position. What I’m questioning is is your motivation.

Victoria: I always have this company and our family’s best interests at heart. That’s my motivation, dad. And if you don’t believe that, then why did you trust me to be the custodian of your legacy?

Victor: Why are you so reluctant to have adam reunite with his family? Why are you so against him having his own success?

Victoria: How is handing him a company a success of his own? Look, if you want to acquire mccall unlimited and hand it to adam, well, by all means, feel free to do so. But do it independent of newman because this company should have no part of it.

Victor: Don’t ever forget who handed you this company.

Adam: In the blink of an eye, phyllis is gone. What was she doing marrying stark of all people? That sounds off. I’m sure.

Sharon: Sadly, we’ll never be able to ask her.

Adam: Uh, have you spoken to nick about it?

Sharon: Well, not since last night. I was with him when all of the information was rolling in and then when phyllis’ death was confirmed, obviously, he was very focused on summer.

Adam: Hmm. Well, I’m sure he’ll reach out to you when he gets the chance to.

Sharon: I hope he does. You know, he was really there for me when ray died and I want him to know that I can be that person for him now, especially since the situations are so similar.

Adam: You two have been through something like this before. Together. I’m sure that he will reach out.

Sharon: Losing cassie and ray, I feel especially qualified to help people through this. I know what it feels like when fate reaches out and snatches the person you love and the inevitable guilt of things that were said, things that were left unsaid and how that weighs on you.

Adam: Sharon, nick will reach out. Okay? And you will be a great comfort to him. But you can’t be everything to everyone all the time, even though you try. You have to take care of yourself too.

Sharon: I will, if you will.

Adam: [ Laughs ] Deal.

[ Sighs ] I, um, have been summoned. Can we pick this up later?

Sharon: Yeah, of course.

Adam: Okay. I’ll check back in with you.

Sharon: Yeah.

Abby: The news about phyllis is sickening.

Chance: Yeah. Um, I feel sorry for summer and for daniel.

Abby: Yeah. You never expect that it’s gonna be the last time that you see someone. But thank you so much for your hard work. I know the family really appreciates it.

Chance: Just doing my job. Anyway. Nice to runing into you.

Abby: Wait, chance. Um– I don’t want to intrude at a time like this, but I’ve been looking for you. There’s something that we need to discuss.

Devon: Everything changed for me last night. Just being in that room and seeing those pictures on the wall and hearing his favorite music all night long.

Lily: I know. I felt like he was there with us.

Devon: Yeah. And I’m sure he was. And then, hearing about the news of phyllis this morning, it reminded me about that day that we lost him all over again. And made me think about how we really don’t have a lot of time here on this planet. And the most important thing is keeping the people that you love close to you.

Lily: I agree. I do. I mean, time is a really valuable resource, and I really don’t want to waste any more of it.

Devon: Yeah. Neither do I, at all. You know, you’re my sister. I love you and there should never be anything that’s bigger than that. Oh, I wanna give our partnership at chancellor-winters a second shot.

Nate: I gotta say, I– I thought you looked a little different at the gala. But, uh, I learned a long time ago to never assume a woman is pregnant.

Sally: Good call. Yeah, I– I haven’t told a lot of people and I promise I’m not in the habit of just flagging down doctors as they’re casually walking by. So, I thank you, uh, for stopping and listening. Um. Sometimes after I eat, I get nauseous, and I get this, like, fluttering feeling in my stomach and I just am not really sure it’s normal.

Nate: Okay. Well, I can’t be 100% certain and this wouldn’t be an official diagnosis. Okay? Uh. Who’s your obstetrician?

Sally: Dr. Chandler.

Nate: Good, good. She’s the best. You should probably schedule an appointment with her just to be sure. But from what you’ve told me, I’m confident I know what’s going on.

Sally: Okay. Can you connect the dots for me?

Nate: Well, that weird fluttery feeling happens after you eat, right?

Sally: Mm-hmm.

Nate: And then you tend to get relief once you walk around a bit.

Sally: Yeah. Yeah. That’s right.

Nate: Is it possible you get this feeling after you’ve eaten a little too much?

Sally: Uh. Well, an omelet, toast, and double hash browns. So, yes, it’s possible.

Nate: And you’re feeling mild nausea but nowhere near morning sickness.

Sally: Yes.

Nate: Well, I think what’s happening is a cause for celebration.

Sally: What exactly am I celebrating?

Nate: The baby is starting to move.

[ Laughs ] -What’s he doing? -He’s cleaning the trash cans. I’m– I’m playing catch up now.

Sally: So, when I eat, the baby eats as well and the food’s not only providing me with energy, but the baby too.

Nate: Someone was napping in biology class.

Sally: Is it that obvious? I’m– I’m playing catch up now. It’s just there’s something new every day.

Nate: So, you’re right. The nutrition gives the baby a little boost, which in turn contributes to your queasiness.

Sally: So, when I get up and I move around, it’s like I’m rocking my little guy or girl to sleep, which is– soothes them, so the fluttering eases up.

Nate: That’s pretty much it.

Sally: Thank you, nate. You have excellent bedside manner for a media executive.

Nate: I would take that as a compliment. Well, it looks like my take-out order’s here, if you’re good.

Sally: Uh. Yeah, please go enjoy some nausea free carbs for me. And if you wouldn’t mind keeping this to yourself.

Nate: It’s not my news to share. But, um, if you don’t mind, I’d like to leave you with some words of advice. Just three things. Try to eat frequent smaller meals, opposed to fewer large ones, okay? That should lessen the discomfort of sharing a full stomach with a growing baby. Two, chamomile tea helps with digestion.

Sally: Ah, good to know. What’s the third?

Nate: Cherish these moments. They don’t last forever.

Lily: Ah. Okay. Um, you wanna come back to chancellor-winters?

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Lily: Have you thought about this enough?

Devon: I don’t need to give it a lot of time. I can feel like it’s the right thing to do.

Lily: Well, is this because of what happened yesterday? Because I mean, that was a lot for everyone.

Devon: What do you think? This is just like an emotional decision I’m making?

Lily: Well, I just wanna make sure that it’s not, you know. Our– our company, our relationship has been through a lot of turmoil. So, I wanna make sure that we’re being logical about this.

Devon: I’m being very logical about it. The only thing that matters to me is protecting our relationship, as brother and sister and as colleagues, I just want to hit the reset button.

Lily: Yeah. I mean, I want that too, of course, I do, you know, but I– I’m scared, right? Like, what if we end up in the same place? Like, what if it happens again?

Devon: It’s not gonna happen again, we won’t let it. And in order to do that, we have to have open communication between each other at all times. And have total honesty, even if it hurts each other’s feelings.

Lily: Yeah. I mean, listen, I agree. I think last time we both had our own agenda, and we weren’t honest with each other.

Devon: Exactly. So, can we do that moving forward? Have total honesty?

[ Lily sighing ]

Lily: Okay. Well, in light of total honesty. I mean, are you just doing this to mend things with me or because you’re afraid of losing hamilton winters?

Devon: Well, of course, I want to hang on to my company, but no, it’s– the main part of all this is not losing my sister because we’re all we have.

Lily: That’s exactly what aunt mimi said.

Devon: She’s a smart woman. Now, I wanna be partners with you again and I wanna make something out of chancellor-winters that we can both be proud of. And that catherine and neil would be proud of.

[ Lily inhaling ]

Lily: All right. Well, I gotta take yes for an answer.

Devon: Yeah. Good. Cheers.

Lily: Cheers.

[ Lily chuckling ]

Chance: Dom is fine, right?

Abby: Yes. Yes, he’s fine. I’m sorry. I should have led with that.

Chance: Um. Okay. Well, I’m not sure what else there is to talk about.

Abby: Chance, I want to be um, completely transparent with you and this isn’t gonna be easy to hear. Devon asked me and dominic to move in with him.

Chance: Hmm.

[ Chance exhaling ] What do you want me to say here, abby?

Abby: I haven’t made any final decisions. I– I don’t know what I’m gonna do yet, but I just– I wanted to talk to you first because I don’t want to make visitations any more uncomfortable than they already are.

Chance: Uncomfortable? How are they uncomfortable?

Abby: They just are. You know that. And I don’t want to do anything to add to it. And also, this is a pretty small town. People talk, so I know it’ll be a point of gossip.

Chance: Well, I think everyone has other things on their mind at the moment.

Abby: I know. And I know how busy you are. I just, um… I wanted to talk to you before I make a final decision.

Chance: You’re actually asking for my opinion on this?

[ Heavy footsteps ]

Victor: Hey, son. I assume you heard about last night’s events.

[ Adam sighing ]

Adam: I just found out from sharon. Uh, I mean, it’s– what a tragedy.

Victor: Yup.

Adam: Phyllis and I, we weren’t exactly close, but… she was never boring. There was times I thought we had a lot in common but, uh, obviously, um, I don’t feel the loss others do.

Victor: Well, I appreciate your candor.

Adam: Well, then let’s, uh, let’s get to the point. What’s going on with tucker’s company?

Victor: Well son, it seems we have hit the roadblock, you know.

Adam: Another one?

Victor: Yeah. Victoria is no longer interested in acquiring mccall unlimited.

Adam: If I’m not mistaken, newman enterprises still belongs to you. So, override her.

Victor: Son, I put victoria in charge for a reason. And I’m not gonna disrespect her decisions.

Adam: Right. Because whenever it’s a choice between me and victoria, it’s not really a choice, it’s game over.

Victor: Son, please don’t go there, all right? I have not given up on acquiring mccall unlimited. I just want us to rethink our approach.

Adam: I don’t think I’m up for that, okay? Nothing is gonna change in our family hierarchy. Oh, I was just– I was fooling myself thinking that anything was gonna change. I think it’s best that we go our separate ways, okay? I’m gonna figure out my future on my own.

Devon: How is, uh, daniel doing?

Lily: Well, I mean, he’s distraught, obviously. He just kept talking over and over about how all of the ways that phyllis could have been saved.

Devon: Yeah, that’s what you do. Your mind goes in 100 different directions.

Lily: Yeah. Absolutely. And he kept beating himself up because, you know, they were in a bad place in her last days. And then he kept thinking maybe he contributed to the stress that made her pass out.

Devon: He can’t do that. He just has to take himself through it. I’d like to think that I’m more at peace with losing neil and hillary, but… you know that hole in your heart never goes away.

Lily: No. And unfortunately, daniel is just at the beginning of his journey.

Devon: This whole thing with phyllis just reminds you that you gotta embrace life. And that’s exactly what I intend to do and not just when it comes to business either.

Lily: Well, what else is going on?

Devon: Well, I asked abby to move in with me.

Abby: I’m not as much asking your opinion on this as I am–

Chance: Just go for it. I’m sure dominic would love it. I assume that you and devon would too. So, no reason not to, right?

Abby: I want to consider your feelings.

Chance: Let me worry about my feelings. And I’m fine with it. Really.

Abby: Okay. Well, um, if I do move out, then you should move back into the chancellor estate. It’s your birthright.

Chance: It’s just a house, abby.

Abby: It’s– it’s not just a house. It– it’s more than that. It’s the chancellor house, a chancellor should live there.

Chance: Dominic does. He’s a chancellor, right?

Abby: Yes, he is and… and maybe one day, it’ll all be his.

Chance: Yeah, of course. It’s his birthright.

Abby: You know, I just– I really don’t feel comfortable living there without you and I get the feeling that nina doesn’t want me there.

Chance: Yeah, she may have mentioned something like that to me as well. I tell you though, it’s jill you need to worry about.

Abby: Okay. Well, um– I’ll leave. But um, maybe I can just keep dominic’s things there and keep his room the same. He loves it there and then everything can just be exactly the way it is now, you know, when he visits you and I won’t have to disrupt his life more than I already have.

Chance: That’s fine with me. I’m gonna do what’s best for dom, whatever I think that is.

Abby: Well, thank you, chance. Um… I hope you have a great rest of your day.

[ Knocking on door ]

Nate: Hey.

Victoria: Hi, come in.

Nate: I just got your text. Thought I’d stop by before I bury my nose in these quarterly reports. What’s going on?

Victoria: I know that you did everything that you could to help phyllis last night.

Nate: Yeah. Thankfully, my medical training kicked back in.

Victoria: Did you and elena figure out what was wrong with her?

Nate: No, and the lack of answers has been weighing on elena. She’s been trying to figure out what we missed, wondering what we could have done to save her before she got into that ambulance.

Victoria: What about you?

Nate: I have questions too, but I can let go in a way elena can’T. Holding other people’s lives in my hands is no longer my responsibility. So, yes, I do wonder what happened to phyllis, truly, but my focus is here at newman. Man: I’m not slowing down anytime soon. ch?

[ Adam sighs ]

Sally: Oh. Where are you rushing off to?

Adam: Um, I’m not sure. Um, nowhere?

Sally: Oh, well, you sure are in a hurry to get there. I’m just here for some chamomile tea.

Adam: Ah. What’s wrong? You all right?

Sally: We’re fine. Uh. But if going nowhere could wait a few minutes, maybe you’d like to sit with me?

Nate: Did you have something specific you wanted to talk about when you sent me the text?

Victoria: Yes. I wanted you to be the first person to know, outside of the family of course. That I am no longer pursuing mccall unlimited.

Nate: I thought that acquisition was the top priority for you. What changed?

Victoria: Can I confess something to you, completely off the record?

Nate: Of course.

Victoria: Well, I denied it to my father, but he was right. The whole mccall thing, it is about adam. Not just for me, but for all of us. If we do manage to acquire mccall, my father is determined to install adam as ceo. And I just keep asking myself if that is the case, why would I… and the company I run, hand adam an empire?

[ Sally sighs ]

Adam: I assume that you heard about phyllis.

Sally: Yeah, it’s pretty awful.

Adam: Yeah. How’s nick doing? I know it can’t be easy for him. I know there’s a lot of– a lot of history there.

Sally: Uh, he’s pretty torn up, especially for summer.

Adam: I don’t know how I’d be able to console connor if chelsea…

Sally: Yeah, he’s struggling with not knowing how to make things better for her.

Adam: Ah. That’s one of the hardest things about parenting is accepting that you cannot protect your kids from everything. No matter how much you want to.

Sally: Well, I’m about to find out what that’s like.

Adam: You will love your child like nobody else.

Sally: I am sure. Yeah, he’s coping with his own grief too. I mean– I mean, he loved phyllis for a really long time.

Adam: And you’re not jealous of that?

Sally: No. I mean, he fell out of love with phyllis long before we ever got together and she is the mother of his child. And like you just said, that is a bond that nothing can break. (Male announcer) important information for viewers age 50 to 85.

Sally: Sounve but th a good sign,

Sally: You seemed pretty discombobulated when I first ran into you… heading out of here with no clear direction is never a good sign, where you’re concerned.

Adam: Yeah. Well, um… I thought that I was running towards something positive but those plans came to a screeching halt.

Sally: You care to elaborate?

Adam: Victor was gonna buy a company that I was going to head.

Sally: Sounds promising.

Adam: But then he pulled the rug out from under me.

Sally: Well, that sounds like victor.

Adam: I’m frustrated. Not only because he chose victoria over me, but, um… for a brief moment, I thought he might choose me.

Sally: Well, I’m sorry that he hurt you again. I mean, we always want to believe the best in the people that we care about. That’s why it is so devastating whenever they let us down. Look at it this way. If victor handed you a company to run, you would have to answer to him and you would be in a never-ending competition with victoria. Is that what you really want?

Adam: Maybe not.

Sally: Everything I said to you when you were ceo of newman media still stands. You are intelligent and highly capable. You have one of the sharpest business minds I have ever seen. You do not need victor to succeed. All you need is you.

Sharon: So, I saw you with abby earlier. Is everything all right?

Chance: I don’t really know how to answer that question. Yes. No. I mean, nothing’s wrong, but… that wasn’t exactly what you would call, uh, small talk, you know?

Sharon: Yeah. I’ve been there. Marriage dissolves and you just try to remain civil and pleasant.

Chance: Yeah, I’m doing my best.

Sharon: Well, tell me… what happened with abby?

Chance: Well, she asked me what I thought about her and dominic moving in with devon.

Sharon: Oh. Wow. Well, what did you do?

Chance: What could I do? Gave the idea a thumbs up.

Lily: Wow. Abby’s moving in with you.

Devon: Yeah. It feels right to both of us. We both know how we feel about each other. Why not?

Lily: Uh, maybe because your ex just moved out.

Devon: Okay. So how much time am i supposed to let go by, then?

Lily: Well, I mean, don’t you think having abby move in with you is just gonna cause amanda more pain?

Devon: No, I don’T. How? She already assumes we live together anyway. She said so last night. And we had a decent conversation, where I feel like there’s some actual closure for the first time. Which is what motivated me to ask abby… and I love her. It’s not a fling, it’s not just some random person, you know. She’s been my best friend for years. She’s the mother of my son. So, us all together as a family feels good to me. And having her and dominic under this roof makes all the sense in the world. (Imitating chicken clucks)

Sharon: Wow. Giving abby the okay to move in with devon, that must have been hard.

Chance: You know, the more I think about it… it really wasn’t that hard.

Sharon: Well, that’s good. Maybe this could mark the end of that. You can put it in the past and that could be really freeing.

Chance: Yeah. You know, it’s tough. There’s never gonna be a clean break with abby. We always have dominic connecting us, you know?

Sharon: Well, you can continue to resent abby for what she did and who she did it with. But abby’s out there living her life and she’s not gonna feel the sting. The only person your anger is gonna affect is you. So… it seems to me that the sooner you let that go the better.

Chance: Well, the way I see it, sharon, is you got two options here. I either pay you for this excellent therapy session or I take you to dinner.

Sharon: And those are my only two options?

Chance: Yeah, those are the only two options.

Sharon: Okay. Dinner.

Devon: Pretty lady.

Abby: Hi.

Devon: Hey.

Abby: Can I come in?

Devon: You know, you don’t have to ask me that question.

Abby: Um…

Devon: What’s up?

Abby: So, I haven’t been able to get your offer out of my mind.

Devon: Well, I don’t want to put any pressure on you to make a decision. Okay?

Abby: No pressure, but, you know, my biggest concern was chance.

Devon: Yeah.

Abby: So, I went and talked to him.

Devon: Really? How did that go?

Abby: Well, he wasn’t ecstatic, but… he gave us the go ahead.

Devon: Really?

Abby: Mm-hmm.

Devon: Well, that’s the best news, isn’t it?

Abby: Yeah. I mean, I think now that that’s handled, the rest seems doable.

Devon: So, are you saying what I think you’re saying?

Abby: I love you. And I would very much like to make a home with you and our son.

Victoria: If we succeed in buying mccall, I am not gonna be able to stop my dad from handing it to adam. But if the acquisition is a failure, then my company takes a hit. And that means it’s a no-win situation for me.

Nate: Makes sense to me. Personally, I’m happy you’re backing off because it leaves the door open for devon to purchase it. If he chooses.

Victoria: Oh. Win-win for everyone, then.

Nate: Victoria, your instincts are always spot on. I admire your ability to pivot when it’s called for.

Victoria: Yes, well, being nimble is a business secret of mine.

Nate: Thank you for sharing your secrets with me. It’S… nice to be in your inner circle.

Victoria: You’re an asset. I would definitely be a fool not to recognize that.

Nate: Good to hear. Though, I realize that most of the time that circle is you.

Victoria: I can reach out for help whenever the situation arises.

Nate: Yeah? So, you’re thinking of expanding this inner circle of yours?

Victoria: Just by one.

Nikki: It went that badly with adam?

Victor: Well, let me put it this way. He’s still as obstinate as always. He insists that I… force victoria to acquire mccall unlimited.

Nikki: Oh, well, you’re not considering doing that, are you?

Victor: No, of course not. But that answer didn’t sit well with him.

Nikki: Well, I take it as a good thing. Now, we can finally get past the pursuit of a company that tucker clearly wants to sell to devon.

Victor: There’s only one problem. Devon is no longer interested in acquiring another company.

Nikki: What happened?

Victor: Devon wants to rejoin chancellor-winters.

Nikki: Wow, that’s an interesting turn of events.

Victor: It’s not surprising, to be honest with you. After phyllis’s death, I guess everyone is rethinking their relationship with their family. I certainly am not gonna waste any more time being away from my family, including adam. So as far as I’m concerned, mccall unlimited is still on the market.

Adam: Thank you… for always knowing the right thing to say. It’s part of the reason you’re gonna be an amazing mother to our little boy.

Sally: Wait, what? Little boy?

Adam: It’s my track record. All boys, so far.

Sally: Okay. Well, maybe that means you’re overdue for a daughter.

Adam: Hey, I would love a little girl. I mean, I’m gonna be thrilled either way.

Sally: Well, the way this kid refuses to let me enjoy a meal. I’m not sure how either of us comes out of this healthy.

Adam: Are you still having morning sickness?

Sally: No.

Adam: Are you taking the prenatal vitamins? I mean, do we need to go see a doctor?

Sally: No, I’m fine. No, it’s not morning sickness. It’S… it’s just a little nausea. Nothing that chamomile tea can’t fix. Besides, I heard somewhere that indigestion means the baby’s gonna have a full head of hair.

Adam: I have not heard that one.

Sally: Well, look it up. I’m really sorry I worried you.

Adam: It’s unavoidable. I’m the kid’s father and you’re right. That bond is unbreakable.

Announcer: Next week on the young and the restless…

Jeremy: Phyllis. Are you here? How is it that you’re here right now?

Summer: I need your help.

Chance: All right. What can I do for you?

Summer: You and I are gonna expose my mom’s murderer.

Interview with Hunter King of “The Professional Bridesmaid” on Hallmark by Suzanne 4/3/23

Don’t miss the movie, Saturday, April 8, on Hallmark! This was a very quick interview, but I enjoyed it. I’m a huge fan of this young actress, and I think she has a big career ahead of her. She’s already been a hit in “The Young and The Restless,” where she was half of a very popular couple as Summer to the handsome young Kyle (squish name “Skyle”). Even before that, playing Summer meant she was related to half the town on the show, making her an integral part of everything. She was also part of the four-season comedy “Life in Pieces,” which I loved. It was great to talk to her about this fun and romantic movie. It was really lovely to see Chandler Massey as her love interest, too. He is most known for playing Will on “Days of Our Lives.” Both of them have won multiple Daytime Emmy Awards and have done a few Hallmark movies, so pairing them up is genius. If you’re a long-time Days viewer, you may recognize the mayor (also the bride’s dad), Roark Critchlow, who played Mike Horton! And yes, if you’re wondering, a professional bridesmaid is a real thing. Google to find more.

“The Professional Bridesmaid,” premieres Saturday, April 8 @ 8 p.m. ET/PT on Hallmark Channel, as part of the network’s “Spring into Love” programming event.

Daytime Emmy-winning actress Hunter King, best known for her roles in “The Young and The Restless” and “Life in Pieces,” plays Maggie Bailey who has turned being an expert bridesmaid into her career. Her latest client is the mayor’s daughter, however no one can know Maggie is a “hired bridesmaid”. Maggie must hide her identity while working to coordinate three unhelpful bridesmaids, and keep Henry (Chandler Massey, “Days of Our Lives”), a local reporter assigned to the society story, focused on the wedding, even as she begins to grow closer to him. Hunter shines in this heartwarming film about love and friendship. I would love to gauge your interest in speaking with her about her role in this Spring into Love movie.

HUNTER KING AND CHANDLER MASSEY STAR IN THE PROFESSIONAL BRIDESMAID,’ A NEW, ORIGINAL MOVIE PREMIERING APRIL 8, ON HALLMARK CHANNEL

STUDIO CITY, CA – March 20, 2023 – Hunter King (“Life in Pieces,” “The Young and The Restless) and Chandler Massey (“Days of Our Lives”) star in The Professional Bridesmaid,” a new, original movie premiering Saturday, April 8 (8 p.m. ET/PT) on Hallmark Channel.Photo: Chandler Massey, Hunter King Credit: ©2023 Hallmark Media/Photographer: Ricardo Hubbs

Years ago, Maggie Bailey (King) realized she had a particular skill set for being an ace bridesmaid – and she went pro. Now she uses her talents to help brides navigate the tricky emotional and social dynamics that go along with planning their big day in addition to the practical. Her latest client, Alexis Shepard (Francesca Bianchi,”A Million Little Things”), is the daughter of Columbus’ mayor who is up for reelection. Alexis’ wedding promises to be the event of the summer with lots of scrutiny, so the mayor’s team hires Maggie to join the bridal party and help keep everything on track. But no one can know that Maggie is a hired bridesmaid, so she is introduced as Alexis’ old friend Maisie. Unfortunately, Henry Whittington (Massey), an ambitious local reporter assigned to the society story is sniffing around hoping to get close to the mayor for a scoop on the pending development of local park land. To pull off her assignment, Maggie must coordinate three unhelpful bridesmaids, and keep Henry focused on the wedding while hiding her identity, even as she begins to grow closer to him.

“The Professional Bridesmaid” is from Lighthouse Pictures Inc. Marguerite Henry is executive producer. Shawn Williamson, Jamie Goehring and Robert Lycar serve as producers. Peter Benson directed from a script by Carol Starr Schneider, Gregg Rossen and Brian Sawyer.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Nick: [ Sighs ] Phyllis is gone. She’s really gone.

Christine: Let’s head back to the [Indistinct].

Chance: Okay.

Nikki: There was so much pain in nicholas’s voice when he called with the news last night.

Victor: Well, phyllis’s death will affect anyone, you know, friend or foe. She was one… one of a kind.

Phyllis: This is awful.

Jeremy: Yeah, well, it’s not crimson lights, but you better get used to that cause you’re never going back there again.

Phyllis: Yeah, I’m never going back there again.

Jeremy: And you’re dead, remember? Imagine everyone in genoa city waking up to a world without phyllis summers in it. There’s no turning back now ’cause our plan is coming together like clockwork. It’s moving perfectly. It’s good for you. You’re getting everything you ever wanted.

Kyle: Dad, um, morning. How are you?

Jack: I honestly don’t know how to answer that question. I feel like I’m in a nightmare and I can’t seem to wake up.

Kyle: Yeah, despite everything, I know how much you cared for phyllis.

Jack: The fact that we haven’t been on good terms for some time doesn’t make the loss any less profound.

Kyle: Yeah, the house is awfully quiet. Where is everyone?

Jack: Ashley and traci got out early. I encouraged diane to get over to the grand phoenix spa, just to shake off some of that stress and to not upset summer.

Kyle: Yeah, good thinking. You know, dad. I– I feel so helpless. She barely slept. I don’t know what to do for her.

Jack: I think she needs to know that you’re there for her.

Kyle: I know, but summer’s always so full of life and joy and that’s gone.

Jack: This is gonna take some patience. This isn’t gonna happen quickly.

Kyle: I know.

Jack: She’s got a lot to work through.

Kyle: Yeah, problem is, she’s overwhelmed, but not just with phyllis’s death, she is consumed with the idea that mom had something to do with phyllis collapsing. Dad, I need to know. What do you really think about stark’s accusations?

Jack: They’re ludicrous. There’s no way diane did that.

Kyle: Dad, I feel the same way. But do you think in the past she could have done something like this?

Jack: What does it matter whoever she was in the past? She is a completely different person today.

Kyle: You’re right. But not everyone is going to see it that way. Especially after the fight those two had. Everyone knows how much they hated each other. Look, I’m just afraid this doesn’t look good for mom, and who knows where that will lead the police.

Jack: Let’s just hope it leads them straight to stark.

[ Knocking on door ]

Phyllis: Who is that? No one’s supposed to know we’re here. What the hell’s going on?

-During an asthma attack,

Jeremy: Anyone follow you?

Carson: No.

Jeremy: You sure?

Carson: I’m positive. I’m not on anybody’s radar.

Jeremy: Get in here. Hurry up.

Phyllis: Wait, wait, what are you doing? No one’s supposed to know where we are. Why did you let him know where to find us?

Jeremy: Calm down. Carson and I have some unfinished business that we need to take care of. It’s all there, okay? If you think this was for you, you were mistaken. This is his last payment for services rendered.

Phyllis: Okay, well, before you give him that– hey, hey, look at me in the eyes. Did the police buy the story? I mean, all of it? Did they buy it? Also, did chance? Did he take note when I was whispering in the ambulance, when I was whispering, “poison?”

Carson: I stuck to the script exactly. The poison, the crash, the whole thing. They totally bought I was the lone survivor. I even made sure your blood sample was found by the rescue team.

Jeremy: Good, good. I knew I could count on you.

Carson: Everybody keeps calling me, asking me if I’m doing okay. I just want this to be done and over with now.

Jeremy: Okay, all right. Take the money, forget you ever met us. And if the cops question you again, you keep playing your part, okay? You stick to the story, keep it simple, or else we’re gonna have a problem. Got it?

Carson: Yeah, I got it.

Jeremy: Okay, now get outta here.

[ Door slamming ]

Phyllis: He’s so skittish.

[ Sighs ] Are you sure that guy can be trusted?

Christine: Unfortunately, it’s impossible to get a viable autopsy on phyllis’s remains. The medical examiner said the damage done by the fire was just too extensive.

Chance: But the lab is processing a sample from the wreckage. Her blood that was drawn before the crash, so they can at least run a tox screen on that.

Christine: Mm-hmm. Court order’s been issued. The sample’s being tested. I’m telling you, if there was a substance in her system before she passed out…

Chance: Then the emt’s statement of her last words being about poison is validated.

Christine: And if that’s true, we will have a whole other mystery to unravel. Who was behind the poisoning? Diane? Stark? Someone we haven’t even considered?

Chance: Why would stark poison his new wife?

Christine: Uh, well, maybe he married her for her money. Maybe he was looking for some fast score before leaving town. I don’t know, the guy’s a wild card, and this quickie wedding to phyllis has caught everyone off guard.

Michael: Hello. I’d say good morning, but I’M… not.

Chance: I have a feeling that you two need to speak alone. I’ll let you know when the test results are in.

Christine: Okay. Hey, I know how hard this must be for you and lauren. Phyllis’s death, I– I’m so sorry. I– I know how close you were.

Michael: There aren’t enough words to describe how we’re feeling. And I’m sure lauren and I aren’t the only ones.

[ Object crinkling ]

Jack: Summer. Hey. I’m glad you’re up. Can I get you anything? How about some breakfast? I’m sure you’re pretty hungry.

Summer: Uh, not really. Where’s harrison?

Kyle: Linda thought it’d be a good idea to get him out of the house for a while.

Jack: And we agreed.

Summer: Okay. Were you afraid that I was gonna go off on diane again?

Jack: No.

Kyle: No. No, we just didn’t want him picking up on all the grief in the house today.

Summer: Then he should come home, because I’m done with all of that.

Jack: We’re done with all of what?

Summer: Grief, being sad.

Jack: Oh, summer, if only it were that easy for any of us. No, saying it is over does not make it so.

Summer: Okay, well, I’m done talking about diane or jeremy stark or anything that happened yesterday.

Jack: I totally understand that. You don’t have to talk about anything you don’t want to deal with right now.

Kyle: Hey, it’s a beautiful day out. Why don’t we go out back and get some sun?

Summer: I can’t right now. I have work to do.

Jack: Oh, honey, marchetti can wait at a time like this.

Kyle: We’ve notified the staff. We’ll be taking some time off.

Summer: Thanks, but it’s not marchetti. It’s something far more important and it can’t wait. Having diabetes can raise a lot of questions.

Phyllis: Hey, that carson, he’s a lucky guy. He gets to keep his identity and he gets some money.

[ Sighs ] Can you talk to me about the ambulance driver? Why was he okay to lose his identity? I mean, supposedly he died in the crash with me. Why was he okay with that?

Jeremy: Oh, he had no attachments, so worked out just fine for him. He can start over. He’s probably halfway to a tropical beach by now.

Phyllis: Okay, and then those two bodies from the morgue, mr. And mrs. John doe, that were found at the crash site? I mean, that’s– that’s me and the driver, right?

Jeremy: Hmm. Poetic, isn’t it? The same blueprint that diane used with her exit all those years ago. Only this time she’ll be a murder suspect and spend the rest of her life behind bars.

Phyllis: And I’ll be wiped out of existence.

Jeremy: What?

Phyllis: What?

Jeremy: I hope that’s not regret I’m hearing?

Kyle: Summer, what work could you possibly have to do that’s more important than everything else going on right now?

Summer: I have to start planning my mom’s memorial service.

Jack: That’s not something you have to take on right now, is it?

Kyle: Yeah, you need to rest. We hate to see you pushing yourself like this.

Summer: I’m not pushing myself. I’m just doing what needs to be done. My mom deserves a proper tribute and I’m gonna be the one that arranges it.

Sally: I’m really glad we just stayed here for the night. I imagine you have to go be with summer. Have you heard from her?

Nick: [ Clicks tongue ] I’ve tried calling her, um, several times but she…

[ Sighs ] She needs space. It’s getting hard to stay away from her.

Sally: I mean, she has to be devastated. If she should spend the next few weeks in bed, no one would blame her.

Nick: Yeah. I told noah and faith. Noah and allie are on a trip. Uh, they’re gonna cut that short and head home. I told faith she should call summer, but… she’s got to stay at school. She’s prepping for finals.

Sally: And christian?

Nick: I haven’t had the heart to tell him yet. He adored phyllis. It also just happens to be one of those random days off from school. So, the nanny was gonna take him to the zoo, get him some ice cream, make a special day out of it. I didn’t want to take that away from him by telling him about this.

Sally: You’re amazing, you know that?

Nick: Not feeling really amazing right now.

Sally: [ Sighs ] But you are. I mean, look at how you’re taking care of your kids in the middle of a tragedy. I really admire that about you. But you need someone to lean on, too. I hope you know you can count on me. All you have to do is ask.

Nick: Thanks. I just can’t stop thinking about phyllis and why this happened. How big a part of my life she is. I’m really gonna miss her.

Christine: So, how’s lauren doing? I know that she and phyllis have been through hell and back. And to lose someone who you’ve seen through the best of times and the worst of times, it’s devastating.

Michael: Lauren is shaken to her core. This morning she told me that she could literally feel her heart breaking. Phyllis was one of the best friends she’s ever had. And it’s just unreal to think that she’s just gone like that.

Christine: Yeah, that’s the hard part.

Michael: Well, god knows this town won’t be the same without phyllis running around raising hell.

Christine: I mean… I’ll admit there have been many times that I wished phyllis would leave this town for good.

Michael: Not like this. No one should wish something like this on anyone.

Christine: The way she was ripped out of everyone’s lives, it’s jarring, to say the least, but I promise you this– I will get to the bottom of what happened and make sure justice is served.

Michael: Which is why I wanted to speak to you, madam district attorney.

Christine: Michael, you know I can’t discuss an ongoing investigation.

Michael: I totally understand. I’m not here seeking information. I’m here to share some.

Michael: At the gala, I turned off my phone. I promised lauren a romantic night with no distractions. And we were having a glorious time until it all went to hell.

Christine: I seem to remember you and lauren leaving right after everyone was told phyllis didn’t make it.

Michael: Oh… we went home in a complete daze, just trying to process what happened. It wasn’t until the middle of the night that I remembered to turn my phone back on. And I was… stunned by what I’d missed.

Christine: What was it?

Michael: A call from phyllis that she made last night. She left a voice mail. And you need to hear it.

Phyllis: I don’t have regrets, exactly. Um–

Jeremy: Okay, well, what do you have, then?

Phyllis: I am just concerned about my kids. That’s all.

Jeremy: Okay, you knew from the beginning how hard it was gonna be on them.

Phyllis: Yes, I knew, it’s just this one thing. Um, when I started in on my speech after jack and diane’s announcement, um, I looked over at them and they seemed agitated, and so I just carried on, and– and, um, when I started stumbling, they seemed a little alarmed, that’s all. And I could see it in their eyes that they were worried. And then when I fell to the floor, they– they seemed really frightened and I… I just wasn’t expecting that. How did they react when they found out that the ambulance didn’t make it to the hospital?

Jeremy: They were surprised and upset, as to be expected.

Phyllis: Okay. How did they react when they found out that I–

Jeremy: Phyllis! What does it matter?

Phyllis: Well, it just matters to me because I’m not used to walking away from my kids. That’s all. I’m not diane.

Jeremy: Look, I can understand why you’re having second thoughts, but need I remind you how furious you were? Remember? How you felt utterly disillusioned and betrayed? Now, that’s one of the main reasons why you agreed to take it this far.

Phyllis: Yeah, I know.

Jeremy: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Your kids made you the enemy, huh? Remember that? They chose her side. They pushed you away. They’re not kids anymore. They have families of their own and they’ll find a way to move on without you. Okay? ‘Cause that’s what people do. I know that’s hard to hear, but that’s the way it is. They grieve, they heal. And ultimately, they move on. Which is precisely what you need to do.

[ Phyllis sighing]

Nikki: Hi, sweetheart, how are you doing?

Summer: I’m good, how are you? Thank you, guys, for coming. You really didn’t have to. I– I’m fine. I’m not gonna waste another second falling apart. It’s not the newman way. Right, grandpa?

Victor: There’s no wrong way. No right way. No newman way. Don’t you stay strong just because of us, okay?

Summer: I’m not. Believe me, I– I’m seriously– I’m fine. I just need to stay focused.

Victor: Focused on what?

Kyle: On phyllis’s memorial. Summer started putting some thoughts together before you got here.

Nikki: Already.

Summer: Why would I wait? It needs to be perfect. Something… that my mom would be proud of. Elegant and… stylish, just like her. Nikki: Well, that sounds lovely. I just want you to know that you can count on us for anything you might need. And if you already have some ideas about the memorial, maybe we can take it off your hands for a little bit so you can rest.

Summer: Please… don’t coddle me. It’s not what I need right now and I’m not a child. So just don’t treat me like one.

Victor: Okay. Sweetheart, come here. Come here.

I have type 2 diabetes,

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Are you tired

of washing dishes?

Nick: I mean, it still doesn’t seem real. It’s definitely not right. Phyllis was the embodiment of life, that fire, that passion, was always there. It was never phoned in. She lived life to the fullest at all times. Even though there were some times when I wish she didn’T.

Sally: Yeah, she definitely knew how to command a room, that’s for sure.

Nick: I think that electricity, that… spark around her is what drew me to her. I was at the lowest point in my life when she and I got together, sharon and i had just lost cassie. It was, um… I want you to know that I don’T… I feel terrible, the way I betrayed sharon and I’m not trying to make excuses for my behavior, but at that time… I was in trouble. I was drowning and phyllis was a lifeline for me.

Sharon: After cassie died, I didn’t think that anything could hurt me more deeply. And then… I learned about nick and phyllis’s affair and that poured salt in an already opened wound. That was the beginning of nick and phyllis’s relationship and it was the beginning of my rivalry with her.

Chance: It must have been a long time ago.

Sharon: Yeah, it was pretty ugly. The jealousy, the cat fights the psychological warfare. Of course, I can’t blame it all on her. There were times I… gave as good as I got and probably sometimes when I went a little further than that. Look… whether you hated phyllis or you loved her, she had a talent for sparking very strong emotions and she made sure that she was a presence that could not be ignored.

Nick: It was all extremes, all the time with phyllis, on both ends of the spectrum. Sometimes that was the best thing about her. Sometimes it was the worst. Uh, she was… unpredictable and exciting, stubborn and infuriating, especially when she got some idea in her head and, look out, there was no stopping her. Especially if it was something that she shouldn’t be pursuing, it didn’t matter. Yeah, she drove me nuts sometimes.

Sally: Nuts in a good way, looks like. What happened between the two of you?

Nick: I guess in the… long run we weren’t meant to be together. But we always stayed close, you know? It was mostly because of summer but also… underneath that fierce, maddening exterior was someone with a really big heart.

Sharon: Ultimately, phyllis and i found a way to get along. We were both part of the same extended family, so it was important that we… learned to be civil. And then… when I was undergoing cancer treatment, out of the blue… phyllis showed me genuine kindness and that was the last thing that I expected. But that was phyllis. She was… always full of surprises.

Chance: Yeah, it sounds like she was two different women. You never knew which one you were gonna run into, huh?

Sharon: Exactly. One of them was… vicious and scheming and the other one, she was capable of love and compassion. Now they’re both gone.

Nick: You know, our romantic relationship, it ended a long time ago, but we have this bond that is unbreakable. She loved her kids with every fiber of her being. They love her just as much. It scares the hell out of me, thinking about how summer’s gonna… find a way to get through this.

Nikki: Darling…

Jack: Uh, please stay, have a seat.

Nikki: I– I didn’t mean to imply that you couldn’t handle the memorial on your own. I just want to help. We all do. Please don’t misinterpret that.

Summer: I’m sorry for snapping at you like that, grandma. I know that you mean well, but the thing is, is I– I– I can’T… hand off any part of this. I need to make sure every detail of this memorial is exactly the way that my mom would have wanted it.

Victor: Sweetheart, everything is all right. Okay? We understand.

Summer: My mom… left this world feeling abandoned and alone and I’m– I’m not gonna abandon her now. I don’t care what else is going on, the investigation, the speculation, all the accusations, it’s not gonna get in the way of me showing the world how loved she really was. So, if you guys will excuse me.

Kyle: Hey, hey, summer, summer. We all respect where you’re coming from. Handle the memorial however you see fit. But let those of us who love you be there for you.

Summer: Okay. (Lucky) uh-oh the magic’s disappearing!

Jeremy: Now whatever doubts you have, you need to get them out of your head now. We did this thing. We have to live with it. Now… it’s time for us to go our separate ways. It’s been real and I’ll always look back fondly on our brief marriage.

Phyllis: Well, you should considering you benefited.

Jeremy: Yeah, it was generous of you to change your will, you know, half of it goes to your kids and the other half goes to your new loving husband. But it’s not like you’re walking away empty-handed, right?

Phyllis: You certainly made out like a bandit, didn’t you?

Phyllis: You have a passport with a brand new identity, a new phone and quite a hefty amount of cash. You could start over. You can go anywhere, do anything to your heart’s desire. Now, who could have a problem with that? Hell, you should be rejoicing right now. Now, have you decided where you’re gonna reinvent yourself?

Phyllis: I didn’t get that far. I didn’t think much about the future. I was just focused on our plan, you know? I didn’t want to make any future plans just in case some part of… our scheme went wrong.

Jeremy: Yeah, well, it didn’T. Now the world is your playground. You can do anything. The possibilities are endless. You’re still young, beautiful, bright, and you are shrewd enough to build a whole new future for yourself. Now, you have the life you deserve… and diane… gets the life she deserves behind bars.

Michael: I need to warn you, this is gonna be hard to listen to and not just because the last thing I expected was to hear phyllis’s voice, but… you’ll see for yourself.

Phyllis: Michael… it’s phyllis. I’m– I’m calling you, I just, I– you need to know diane is out of control. I am actually terrified. She tricked jack into proposing to her and she’s gonna get rid of anybody or anything that stands in her way. I– I know you probably think I’m being overly dramatic. Please listen to me. This is serious. That woman just attacked me and threatened to kill me. God help me, michael, I can’t believe I’m saying this, I’m actually afraid of that crazy bitch.

Christine: Wow.

[ Chuckling ]

Michael: Was something funny?

Christine: After all of the years… of fighting with phyllis, I mean, the decades… of animosity and hatred… and it went both ways, it wasn’t just her hating me. I loathed that woman. I couldn’t stand the sight of her. I wouldn’t go so low as to try and run her over with a car, but… the thought crossed my mind, and… and now she is gone, under mysterious circumstances. And, you know… the one person who is in charge of trying to figure out what happened, the one person who is supposed to bring justice to phyllis… is me. Her worst enemy.

[ Chuckling ] Oh, so what, now you find something funny?

[ Laughing ]

Michael: It’s almost as if phyllis planned this.

[ Chuckling ]

Christine: Oh, god.

Jack: Summer was an absolute wreck last night. Today it seems she’s going in the opposite direction.

Victor: Yeah, I can see that. Nick and I are very concerned about her.

Jack: I think she’s covering but I can feel her heartache.

Victor: Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, boy, that’s beautiful. You know, when nikki and i left the club last night, I was still hoping for the best and then nicholas called with the bad news.

Jack: Yeah, we were all devastated. I still find it unbelievable.

Victor: If you don’t mind me asking you, don’t you find it strange that the ambulance crashed and then burned?

Jack: Bizarre twist of events, isn’t it?

Victor: Yeah, then my people went to the crash site, and they realized that the ambulance had taken a rather secluded route to get to the hospital.

Jack: They were on collins road.

Victor: Yes.

Jack: I have no idea why.

Victor: I have no clue. Let me ask you something. Do you think your engagement announcement to diane may have set phyllis off?

Jack: Whoa, I’m gonna interrupt you there. I hope you’re not suggesting diane is to blame for any of this.

Victor: Jack, I’m simply trying to find out what happened.

Jack: Well, if it’s answers you want, I suggest you start with jeremy stark. I am convinced all roads lead to his door.

Victor: Mm-hmm. I kind of agree. But I wonder if they’re asking him the right questions? Ultomiris is for adults with generalized myasthenia gravis

Sally: Nick… summer is gonna find a way through this. You know why? Because of you. She has you, her incredible father and I have absolutely no doubt that you’re gonna help her find a way through this.

Nick: God knows I want that, but she’s already shutting me out.

Sally: Summer is reeling right now. She probably doesn’t know what or how to feel. You know, she’s in uncharted emotional territory, and… look, I relate to that. She just needs you to guide her like you’ve been doing for me with this pregnancy.

Nick: That’s exactly what I want. I can’t be too forceful about it, I risk pushing her away.

Sally: Summer will come to you, when she’s ready. Your daughter adores you. I think she just wants to know that you’re gonna be there for her and that you will always be there.

Nick: I’d do anything to take her pain away. To magically make her feel safe and secure, like when she was a little girl. I’d give her a big hug, give her that beat up old rabbit that she loved so much, mr. Ears… and promise her that everything is gonna be okay. You know what? I can’t make that promise anymore. Her mother’s gone… and nothing will ever be the same again.

Christine: Well, I can see why you were so unsettled by phyllis’ message. You two were so close and– and you consider diane a friend too. So you have to be so conflicted on this.

Michael: You think? I’ve made a point of trying to be a buffer zone between those two warring factions. But as you can well imagine, some of those times are much harder than others.

Christine: Okay, so the voice mail, what do you make of it?

Michael: I don’t have enough facts to reach a firm conclusion. We both know phyllis wasn’t afraid of anything. I initially dismissed stark’s claim that phyllis was afraid of diane because clearly the man had his own agenda. But for phyllis to leave a message like this…

Christine: It’s rather stunning to think of phyllis frightened.

Michael: I remember during phyllis’s tirade before she passed out, she told everybody that she had to speak out to protect herself.

Christine: She was clearly afraid of diane. But why?

Jeremy: Yeah, that’s right. I need a car for one passenger to the airport. Thanks.

Phyllis: Why are you calling me a car? I don’t know where I want to go yet.

Jeremy: Okay, it really doesn’t matter because you need to get as far away from this place as possible. All right? Just– just pick a place and as soon as you’re safely away from genoa city, then you can pick a new home base or travel the world.

Phyllis: Well, I wouldn’t even know where to fly to because I don’t know where I wanna go.

Jeremy: Just pick a place. It’s too dangerous for you to be here. You’re leaving tonight.

Chloe: Billy. Billy. Hey.

Billy: Hey. What are you doing back down here?

Chloe: Well, I was just gonna grab a late night cup of tea to help me sleep. You haven’t been down here zoning out since I left, have you?

Billy: I’m not sure, actually. You know, it was a big night. Champagne was poured, and I-i think I just lost track of time.

Chloe: Hey, look at me. Something’s wrong. What happened? Billy, talk to me.

Daniel: Don’t tell me to be quiet.

Danny: Keep your volume down. If people out there hear the threats that you’re making —

Daniel: They’re not threats. They’re not threats. I’m manifesting stark’s death.

Danny: Look, I know what a difficult time this is for you.

Daniel: Then why did you make me come back up here?!

Danny: Where are you gonna go? It’s too late and too early to accomplish anything. And even if, there is nothing you or any of us can do right now.

Daniel: Oh, sure there is. I can go back downstairs and I can beat some answers out of my new stepdad.

Danny: Beating stark to a pulp isn’t going to accomplish anything. You know that, daniel.

Daniel: There’s gotta be something that we can do. There’s gotta be some reason this happened. Someone is responsible for this, and if I could find them, then maybe I could just —

Danny: What? What are you gonna do? What are you gonna do? You gonna hurt ’em? Destroy their lives and yours? It’s not gonna bring your mother back. Phyllis is gone, and we have to accept it.

Daniel: No. No, I don’T.

Danny: Yes, yes.

Daniel: No, I can’t accept that! Mom never gave up on us. You know, she loved us in her own overbearing way. But if this had happened to me or this happened to someone or anybody else that she cared about, she’d be storming the police station. She’d be storming the hospitals. She’d be kicking butt and taking names, demanding to know everything that they know, hiring private detectives. She wouldn’t be sleeping at all, that’s for damn sure. And I-I just feel like there’s nothing that I can do for her.

Danny: We all feel powerless right now. It’s only natural.

Daniel: No. You know what hurts the most? Is I can’t blame mom’s death on anyone else. She’s dead because of me.

Nate: It was an accident.

Elena: I can’t help feeling like we let phyllis down somehow. I mean, I know we did everything that we could, but the whole thing is just so tragic. And her poor family. And then I keep wondering if we knew that emt driver that she died with.

Nate: Yeah. Make sure they’re taking up a collection for his family at memorial.

Elena: But the real question is, why did she need an ambulance in the first place? Why did this seemingly-healthy woman pass out out of the blue? I think we owe it to phyllis to find some answers.

Jack: Anything I can get for you?

Diane: Answers?

Jack: Yeah, I’d like a few dozen of those myself. How does this happen? Doesn’t make sense. How could phyllis be gone?

Diane: I mean, I was just — it was supposed to be such a memorable night.

Jack: Oh, it will be, for all the wrong reasons.

Diane: I can’t shake the feeling that the announcement about our engagement had something to do with it.

Ashley: Glad you’re awake.

Diane: This isn’t the right time for a fight, ashley. We’re all aware of your low opinion about our engagement, so any insults you’re going to hurl at me, just save it, ’cause I am not in the mood. What’s the #1 retinol brand

Chloe: Billy, um… if you’re upset about our kiss —

Billy: Oh, no.

Chloe: If you feel weird about it —

Billy: I don’T. At all. Do you?

Chloe: No.

Billy: Good, because that was a promising kiss.

Chloe: Yes, it was.

Billy: Well, I’m glad to hear you say that, because that was the highlight of my night. Actually, that was the best part of my last month.

Chloe: [ Laughs ]

Billy: I’m looking forward to do that again, to make sure that it was as incredible as I remember it.

Chloe: Well, that’s a possibility. Ok, so it’s not about the kiss?

Billy: No, it’s got nothing to do with you, chelsea.

[ Sighs ] I just got a phone call, and… phyllis is dead.

Nate: When I was standing in front of the mirror, tying my tie before the gala, I wondered how the night would end. This is not how I envisioned it.

Elena: Yeah, I don’t think anyone had this in mind.

Nate: And then [Clears throat] Standing in the lounge dedicated to neil, I was watching you from across the room. I couldn’t hear what you were saying, but watching you laugh, as beautiful as you are in that dress, all night, all I could picture was coming back home, and, uh…

Elena: I was watching you, too.

Nate: I did not catch you.

Elena: I’m smoother than you are.

Nate: And what were you thinking?

Elena: Same as you.

Nate: Why, dr. Dawson, am I being seduced?

Elena: Well, if you have to ask, maybe I’m doing it wrong.

Nate: I miss you.

Elena: I miss you, too. Maybe when we get back home, we can finish the night how we planned to, but for now, we need to find some answers for phyllis.

Nate: This late at night?

Elena: Oh, I have faith in us.

Danny: You are not responsible at all for your mother’s death. You hear me?

Daniel: You weren’t here the past few months. You didn’t see the way that I treated her. Yeah, she didn’t mean any harm. What did I do? I blamed her for everything. Pushed her out of my life. My god, the time that I wasted. I could have been with her, and maybe then…

Danny: What else could you have done?

Daniel: I don’t know, dad. Seen the signs? I mean, told her I loved her. Told her how much she meant to me. Instead, I just — I turned my back on her.

Danny: Don’t do this. You’re gonna drive yourself crazy.

Daniel: You know, when I lost heather and lucy, all mom wanted to do was help me. All she wanted to do was make sure that everything was alright with me. And you know what I did? I told her to stay the hell out of my life.

Danny: Daniel, the last thing your mother would ever want is for you to be doing this to yourself.

Daniel: We were supposed to have time, you know, to forgive and forget, brush things under the rug. Even at the gala, you told me to get past things with mom. And what did I say? “Not tonight.” And now, not ever.

Danny: You’ve got to hang on to the good memories. Yes.

Daniel: [ Sighs ] You know what I’m gonna remember? I’m gonna remember that I was the one who called her out in front of the whole town. That I broke her heart. I’m gonna remember how she looked at me and how hurt she was. That’s what I’m gonna remember. That’s what’s gonna play over and over and over again in my head for the rest of my life.

Ashley: I think there’s been enough conflict for one night.

Jack: Then you heard.

Ashley: Yes, from kyle and summer. Frankly, I’m heartbroken. Phyllis had me convinced that she was indestructible.

Jack: Hey.

Diane: Oh, kyle. I’d ask how summer is doing, but…

Jack: How can we help her?

Kyle: I wish I knew.

Ashley: I think, you know, just give her space and then be there for her when she does reach out, right?

Kyle: She’s just sitting by her son’s bed, watching him sleep, barely even speaking. Anyway, how’s daniel doing?

Jack: He really went off on stark. Who could blame him? Going on about his marriage to phyllis, waving a marriage certificate in everyone’s face?

Ashley: It kind of makes you think, doesn’t it? When a person marries someone who is universally despised — kind of like pouring salt on the wound of people that really care. (Wheezing)

Daniel: Mom must have felt so betrayed by her own kids, like we stabbed her in the back. You know, she needed us and she spent her whole life just trying to make sure that we were happy. How could we let this happen? It’s not supposed to end like this.

Danny: It’s gonna take some time, daniel. You have been through a lot tonight, you really have. And I will do whatever you need me to do, but tomorrow. Right now. You’re gonna get some rest.

Daniel: [ Sighs ]

Danny: Ok? Yeah, no, you do.

Daniel: I can’T. Not now.

Danny: Punishing yourself isn’t gonna bring your mother back. I know you want answers. We all do. But there’s nothing we can accomplish tonight. Absolutely nothing.

Daniel: Speak for yourself.

Danny: Alright. If you can’t sleep, then go to the gym, do a workout, take a shower, do whatever you got to do to get out of this downward spiral. And then we will pick up right where we left off tomorrow. Ok? Tomorrow.

Daniel: [ Sighs ] Yeah. Ok. Ok. And I — I’m sorry.

Danny: For what? Driving your old man crazy?

Daniel: For acting like I’m the only one that’s suffering.

Danny: Hey. We have to support each other. Tomorrow, you can be strong for me.

Daniel: Yeah.

Danny: Ok.

Daniel: I think I am gonna go take that shower.

Danny: Ok.

Daniel: Might actually help me sleep.

Daniel: Good. You go for it. Come here. I love you.

Daniel: I love you, too. The hell are we gonna do without her?

Lily: Hello?

Danny: Lily, hi. Um, it’s, uh — it’s danny.

Lily: Danny, I am so sorry about phyllis. I — I don’t even know what to say.

Yeah, it, um — it seems almost impossible.

Lily: I-I mean, how is everyone holding up? How — how is daniel?

Danny: That’s the thing.

Lily: I-I was gonna call, but I just assumed that he was with summer, trying to work through all of this.

Daniel: He’s um — he’s not with his sister.

Lily: What’s going on?

Danny: Daniel’s in a really — a really dark place right now.

Diane: For you to equate our relationship with whatever criminal or immoral activity the two of them were involved in —

Ashley: Now is not the time to be speaking ill of the dead, diane. Especially when her grieving daughter is right upstairs. Let’s just put our differences aside, ok?

Kyle: Thank you. It still doesn’t feel real.

Ashley: If there’s anything I can do at all, please let me know.

Kyle: I know. Thank you.

Ashley: I mean it. Morning, noon or night, ok?

Diane: Well, I’m glad ashley decided to back off. She was only making things worse.

Kyle: Thank you, all of you, for setting aside your differences while we try to handle this crisis.

Jack: Yes, of course.

Diane: And just know that your dad and I will do whatever we —

Kyle: Hey, summer. I thought you were trying to rest.

Summer: That was the plan.

Diane: Summer, I — I can’t imagine what a difficult time this is for you.

Summer: No. You can’T.

Jack: You don’t have to worry about a thing. I promise you, we will get to the bottom of all of this.

Diane: Yes. We’re sure that jeremy is involved, and we’ll find the connection. And I — I am just so sorry that your mother paid the price.

Summer: You’re sorry? You caused this. All of this. I used to pre-rinse dishes cause my old detergent

Chloe: Billy, I am so sorry. H-how is this even possible?

Billy: I don’t honestly know. You know, I’m not even sure how to feel about it. I mean, it’s awful, you know, and it’S… it’s shocking.

Chloe: Of course, but I mean, this is — this is someone you used to love.

Billy: Yeah. You know, that was a long time ago. And, you know, things did not end very well between us.

Chloe: But at one point in time, she meant everything to you.

Billy: You know, I made a lot of mistakes. And I’m not saying that I regret us breaking up. You know, our relationship ran its course, but, you know, things happened, and I wasn’t much more than a piece of gum on the bottom of her shoe for a long time, but we were able to work at that and we got to a decent place. How does — how does that even happen?

Chloe: Time. Forgiveness. Sometimes a lot of forgetting.

Billy: Yeah. You know, she started working at the hotel, running the hotel, and moving in different circles and all those positive things that we built during our relationship, it all faded away. You know, phyllis has the ability to drive anyone to dabble in their worst habits.

Chloe: She was definitely a handful.

Billy: Yeah, we brought out the worst in each other. Her being gone, it just — it feels wrong.

Daniel: You don’t have to babysit me all night, dad. I’m completely capable of taking care of myself. Lily.

Lily: Your dad let me in. I hope it’s ok that I’m here.

Diane: Summer. Whatever plan jeremy had come up with, I promise you, I had nothing to do with it. I was as shocked and horrified by what happened tonight as anyone and — and what a horrible way for you to find out that your mother had married him.

Summer: I don’t care about jeremy stark right now. This is about you, diane.

Jack: W-we’re just wondering how you imagine diane is involved in–

Summer: Imagine? Jack, I don’t need an imagination. We were all there. We were witnesses. You said to my mom that you would be doing the world a favor if you strangled her to death.

Diane: Those were words spoken in the heat of the moment, but you have to understand that —

Summer: I do.

I understand you were furious with her, and now she’s dead.

Diane: I — I know that you’re hurting, but I mean this from the bottom of my heart — I had nothing to do —

Summer: [ Laughs ] Your heart? Oh, my gosh. Your infamous boundless heart.

Jack: Summer, what happened tonight was an accident.

Summer: Is there a word for an accident that some people don’t regret? Some random, unfortunate event that actually benefits certain people?

Kyle: Maybe we should go upstairs and try to get —

Summer: No! Nothing is gonna change by the morning. You have no right to talk about my mom! You didn’t like her! We all knew that! You resented her because she knew exactly who you are. And as long as she was alive, you would have no real place here. You know what? My mom was real. She was more honest and true than you could ever hope to be. And you couldn’t be her, so you had to destroy her.

Jack: Don’t do this.

Summer: No! I didn’t speak up before, but I am going to now. My mom was right. I mean, we all see it. We all see it, don’t you? I mean, you really are the monster that she was warning us about. You did every single thing that she said that you did. You came in and you took over her life. You’re standing there clutching your pearls, saying that you’re going to find the real culprit.

Kyle: I’m sorry, mom. She doesn’t mean it.

Summer: She means every damn word! Kyle, this is me being honest for the first time in a very long time. Why don’t you try it, diane? Tell the truth. My mom’s dead. It’s what you wanted all along, isn’t it? – Bedtime!! – Bedtime.

“The young and the restless”

will continue. (Lucky) uh-oh the magic’s disappearing!

Elena: I just wish I had some answers, especially for her children.

Nate: When someone so young and full of life dies, it’s only natural to want to learn something from it.

Elena: Yeah, it’s certainly given me perspective.

Nate: What’s your take away?

Elena: Just to make sure the people in my life know how much they mean to me. It was also nice working with you again. We make a great team.

Nate: It was fun, stretching those old muscles again.

Elena: To think, it could be like this every day.

Nate: Listen, we will always be a team. Being a doctor will always be in my blood. But it’s a part of my past now. As you know, my life is moving in new directions, and I know it’s hard for you to accept, but I need you to respect it.

Lily: Daniel, I’m so sorry.

Daniel: Don’t tell me my dad called you.

Lily: Yeah, I think he just thought maybe I could help. I don’t really know how, but I’m here.

Daniel: No, I’m glad. Really, I am. I think I could probably use the company and maybe having someone who’s not going through the same emotional minefield I am will do me some good.

Lily: Yeah. Do you want anything? You want me to get something from room service for you or?

Daniel: No. No. No.

Lily: Can’t eat or drink? I’ve been there.

Daniel: You’re familiar with this territory?

Lily: Unfortunately, I am.

Daniel: What was it like for you, losing neil?

Lily: Um… it felt like the end of the world, you know, because it’s this person who has been there since the beginning. They’ve been there for every story in your life, you know. They were there on your first day of school, the first time you fell down and hurt yourself. Your first love, your first heartbreak. And then they’re gone.

Daniel: Without warning.

Lily: And I think that’s the hardest part, is just the the suddenness of it, because, you know, there was so much that I wanted to still do with my dad. And I was angry, too, you know, really angry because it’s like, what is this world where someone who surrounds you with their love is just gone?

Daniel: Yeah.

Lily: And I feel like it makes you divide your life into segments. You know, like there’s before my dad died, and — and now, you know. And I still pick up the phone sometimes to call him.

Daniel: What about when your mom died?

Lily: Well… they, um… they never found her body, so that’s, like, a whole other trauma that I don’t let myself think about.

Daniel: Yeah. Probably played head games with yourself. Told yourself that it was a mistake. She was still out there somewhere, needing your help.

Lily: Yeah. Because it’s like, how could someone who is so much larger than life, you know, just be gone? But you have to let go.

Daniel: [ Crying ] Well… [ Laughs ] That’s gonna be a problem. Yeah, it’s a family trait, you know. Don’t let go of anything very easily.

Lily: I know. You know, I heard this saying that I think is so true. And it’s like, “grief is love with nowhere to go.” And I know that’s how you feel because I know you had so much that you wanted to say to her and experience with her.

Daniel: Yeah, it just feels like it’s gonna hurt forever.

Lily: It will hurt forever. It will. But I promise you, it’ll get better. You just have to take it day by day. Or in this case, hour by hour.

Daniel: Well, even that sounds too hard.

Lily: But, daniel, just know that you have people who love you and want to support you, ok?

It’s true that the fight between me and your mother had become physical, but I never wanted actual harm to come to her.

Summer: The words that you —

Diane: They were just words, summer. They were completely regrettable.

Summer: So it’s just dumb luck that my mom died and made your wish come true?

Jack: No, that’s not what diane is saying.

Summer: No, diane — I want to hear it from her. I want to hear it from her. Tell me. Tell me how you felt when you heard that my mom was dead.

Kyle: Maybe we should go upstairs and make sure harrison is still —

Summer: No! My mom called your mom a threat, and now she is gone!

[ Crying ] I just want to know what happened. I need to know what happened.

Kyle: Just let me take care of you, ok? Harrison needs you, and so do I. Everything else can wait. Let’s go talk. Ok? Please. Ok.

[ Summer sobbing ]

Summer: I just miss her so much. I didn’t know I could miss her so much… and this is for the rest of my life. I — I can’t do it. I can’T.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] Hey, hey. Come on. Come on.

[ Summer continues sobbing ]

Diane: [ Clicks tongue ] Poor girl.

Jack: Summer needs someone to blame for her life being turned upside down.T remeer this tomorrow.

Diane: Yeah, well, maybe summer is too upset to be thinking clearly, but what about you, jack?

Jack: What do you mean? What about me?

Diane: Do you think I’m responsible for what happened to phyllis? I’m amber, I’ve lost 128 pounds with golo,

Chloe: Genoa city without phyllis is gonna be…

Billy: It’s gonna be a lot quieter, that’s for sure.

Chloe: She definitely left her mark on this town. Summer, daniel, the grand phoenix — I mean, that’s — that’s a lot to be proud of.

Billy: This is the part of the night that I apologize.

Chloe: Apologize? For what?

Billy: Being a lousy date. You know, I might have looked like a million bucks and rocked it on the dance floor, but now we’re sitting here talking about a friend that just passed away. And it’s not how I thought the night was gonna end.

Chloe: Why don’t you come upstairs? To sleep.

[ Billy laughs ] Alone, on my very uncomfortable living room sofa. You shouldn’t be alone on a night like tonight.

Billy: Well, that’s the strangest offer I’ve ever gotten. And I’m gonna take you up on it.

Chloe: Good.

Elena: I already told you, I fully support the direction your life is taking. In fact, I think you’re amazing at everything you do.

Nate: So what’s your hesitation?

Elena: I just don’t want it to change you.

Nate: [ Sighs ] Elena.

Elena: No, I’m serious. I think there are people that can bring out the best in us, and then there are people who can bring out the less attractive aspects of ourselves.

Nate: But you completely and fully support my career decision.

Elena: It’s just the people in your life every day.

Nate: Is this about victoria again? I need her guidance, and I’m damn happy to have a trust and respect. But it’s sweet of you to worry. I’ll be fine.

We’ll be fine. After I get some rest.

Elena: You know what? I think I’m just gonna stay. I’ll walk home. I’m still a little wound up.

Nate: Ok. I’ll walk with you.

Elena: No, no need. You said you’re tired, so go home.

Lily: I mean, I probably think of my parents a few dozen times every day.

Daniel: Doesn’t it hurt?

Lily: In the beginning, it is unbearable. But as time goes on, the pain lessens, the memories get softer, and you stop thinking about all the things you did wrong, and you start thinking about how you made them proud. And you hold on tighter to the people that you love that are still in this world. And you have to be gentle with yourself. You know, the light that they gave to you — you can try to focus on giving that to someone else.

Daniel: Yeah, well, that all still seems like it’s pretty far off, so.

Lily: It is, and that’s ok. There is no rush. You grieve the way that you need to grieve. I mean, you’re probably so exhausted you’re not even processing this conversation.

Daniel: Well, my dad did tell me that I should get some sleep, but I don’t know — just, I don’t know how.

Lily: I know, but you know what? You’re probably gonna have an adrenaline crash pretty soon. So just, you know, get in bed and see what happens.

Daniel: Ok. Ok. I will do that. But I’m gonna call you first thing tomorrow.

Lily: You don’t have to do that, ok? I will be right here.

Daniel: You don’t have to stay here with me.

Lily: I know, but you can’t make me leave.

Daniel: [ Sighs ] What if I can’t sleep?

Lily: Well, then you’ll have someone to count sheep with.

Jack: You heard me just tell summer tonight was an accident.

Diane: You told a victim’s grieving child what she needed to hear. But it’s just us, and I need to hear what’s in your head and in your heart.

Jack: This isn’t necessary.

Diane: It is to me. Jack, I saw the look in your eyes when you found us fighting in that suite, how disappointed you were.

Jack: Please —

Diane: Please, just let me finish. You were fully prepared to blame me for the entire altercation. Yes, you were. And now maybe you think I’m partially to blame, you know — that I somehow played a part in it. Not that I wanted phyllis dead, but maybe you — maybe you think I wanted her out of commission while we made our announcement? No, it could have happened. I — I swear to you, I had nothing to do with what happened to phyllis. I promise you. And now I — I need you to be completely honest with me.

Jack: Ok. I’ll be completely honest.

Diane: Do you believe I’m innocent?

Jack: Six months ago, I might well have imagined you could bring harm to her. Now… diane, I have a mountain of questions about what happened to phyllis. You are not involved in any of them. And I am terribly, terribly sorry.

Diane: [ Crying ] Why are you sorry?

Jack: I’m sorry I made you ask. I’m sorry you questioned my love for you. You should never have to question that, ever.

Diane: [ Sighs ] These questions about phyllis’s death, they — they revolve around jeremy?

Jack: Something about everything that happened tonight, I cannot shake the feeling that he had a hand in it, and if this is a setup of some kind, it is the ultimate payback.

Diane: I’m just scared to think what happens next.

Jack: Well, you know him better than anyone else. What should we expect?

Diane: More mind games, manipulation.

Jack: Listen to me. Whatever he is up to, he’s not gonna get away with it. I think we should get some sleep. Tomorrow promises to be an arduous day.

Diane: Just promise me that you believe me.

Jack: I have unshakable faith in you. Nothing is ever gonna change that.

Daniel: [ Sighs ]

[ Sniffling ]

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] Took you long enough.
