Nick: Beautiful morning. It’s like the universe is trying to make us feel better.

Noah: What’d you say, dad?

Nick: [ Sighs ] Nothing. Did you call mariah?

Noah: Yeah, yeah, her and tessa are coming over. God, man, it was — it was just awful having to tell them that rey died.

Nick: Look, it’s gonna be a difficult next couple days. There’s a lot of things we’re gonna have to do to help your mom, you know, to help her get through this.

Faith: Last night, I kept trying not to cry in front of her because I didn’t want to set her off.

Nick: Faith, if you got to cry, you cry, okay? Don’t hold back. I’m just talking about all the little things we need to do so she doesn’t have to worry about them, alright? Has anybody seen her this morning?

Faith: No, I kept hearing her move around in her room last night, so I don’t think she slept much.

Nick: Well, we’re gonna let her sleep as long as she wants. I went by the coffee house just to check in, and I brought some muffins and stuff.

Noah: Did you break the news to everyone there?

Nick: I did. Denise is gonna open and close for a while, so we don’t have to worry about that.

Faith: I can help out around here, too, so she doesn’t have to do any of the cooking or cleaning.

Nick: Good.

[ Sighs ] I guess I need to call rey’s family, you know, let celeste, arturo, and lola know.

Noah: I can handle the funeral arrangements.

Sharon: No. That’s for me to handle.

[ Knock on door ]

Chelsea: Adam.

Adam: Hi.

Chelsea: What is it? Is connor okay?

Adam: Connor’s fine. Can I come in?

Chelsea: Yeah, of course. What’s wrong? You never just show up here unannounced.

Adam: You haven’t heard?

Chelsea: Heard what?

Adam: [ Sighs ] Um…[ Sighs ] There was an accident last night.

Chelsea: Oh, no. It’s rey, isn’t it?

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ]

[ Knock on door ]

Nikki: Oh, you are here. Why haven’t you returned my calls?

Victoria: Just had a lot on my mind.

Nikki: I’m sure.

Victoria: And I turned my phone off.

Nikki: I stopped by your house to check on you. I didn’t think you would be coming in today.

Victoria: I have so much to do.

Nikki: I really think you should be at home resting after your car accident.

Victoria: I’ve been cleared for work, mom.

Nikki: Well, I was at the hospital, and I hear the doctor tell you how lucky you were to have only gotten a sprained knee.

Victoria: Yes, I know that. She gave me a knee brace and this ridiculous cane to use for a bit, so…

Nikki: She also told you to rest.

Victoria: I’m fine, mother. I’m not going to be moving around a lot.

Nikki: Darling, I’m not just talking about physical rest. I’m sure you’re still in shock over the accident and everything that happened with ashland anD…

Victoria: And rey’s death.

Ashland: Victoria! Ahh! Ahh! Ahh!

[ Groans ]

[ Breathing heavily ] Come on. Victoria?

[ Turn signal clicking ] Thank god you’re still alive. Okay, I’m gonna get you out of here. Here we go. Come on. Come on. Here we go. I got you.

[ Grunting ] It’s gonna be okay. It has to be. I’m not gonna let you die.

[ Breathes shakily ]

Nick: Sharon, I really think you should be resting.

Sharon: I’ve got things to do. I can’t stay in bed all day. Um…I’m going to be strong. Rey would not want to see me falling apart.

Noah: Hey, mom, can we get you something to eat?

Faith: Dad got some muffins from crimson lights, or I can make you something hot.

Noah: How about some coffee?

Faith: Or tea?

Sharon: No, no, thank you. I’m fine. Um…you really don’t need to babysit me or wear kid gloves around me.

Faith: We’re just worried about you. We want you to know that you can lean on us.

Sharon: Hey, I don’t want any of you trying to hide your feelings when you’re around me. Alright? We’re all in this together. We’re gonna get through this together. For rey, okay?

Noah: Got it. For rey.

Sharon: Um, nick, I’m gonna make the call to rey’s family.

Nick: Are you sure that you don’t want me to call celeste, or maybe we can have somebody from the police department call?

Sharon: No. No, I actually practiced what i was going to say to her last night. But…how do you tell a mother that her son is dead?

[ Exhales sharply ] I’m fine. I’m fine. Hi, celeste. It’s sharon. Yeah, it’s really good to hear your voice too. Um…hey, I, uh — I have some really bad news. It’s rey. Rey, my wonderful husband and your beloved son…he’s gone.

Chelsea: I told myself all night rey must have gotten called into work, some last-minute case or something. Right? I mean, because he was so excited to take connor to the hockey game, but an accident. An accident, that makes sense. You know, I’m gonna give him a hard time about that because he really went to extremes to avoid taking us to this game.

Adam: Chelsea —

Chelsea: You know what? I’m just gonna call him.

Adam: Rey was driving back from the ranch with the hockey tickets when his car crashed. Rey died.

Chelsea: Oh, my god.

Adam: I am sorry.

Chelsea: I mean, I don’t — i don’t — I don’t understand. How could this happen?

Adam: It was foggy. It was a three-car accident, and victoria and ashland were actually in the other two cars.

Chelsea: Oh, my god, are they okay?

Adam: Yeah, rey was the only one that — that died.

Chelsea: Oh, my god. Oh, my god. Oh, sharon — does sharon know?

Adam: Nick told her, last night.

Chelsea: Connor. What about connor? Have you told him yet?

Nikki: I just think you’re back at the office too soon.

Victoria: The worst thing that I could do right now is stay at home and fixate on the situation. It would just — [Sighs] Just build up in my mind and overwhelm me. I need to be here. It’ll distract me from the guilt.

Nikki: You shouldn’t feel any guilt.

Victoria: I know, mom, okay? Everybody says that I shouldn’t feel guilt, but I do.

[ Sighs ] I shouldn’t have been driving in the first place after what happened with ashland and especially not in the fog.

Nikki: Sweetheart, rey’s death, however tragic, is not your fault.

Victoria: How do you know that? How does anyone really know that?

Ashland: How did you know i was here?

Victor: What do you mean how did I know you were here? I have my people keep tabs on you.

Ashland: I eluded your men pretty easily last night.

Victor: And if you hadn’t, that accident could have been avoided.

Ashland: Is that why you stopped by here, victor, to talk about what-ifs and other hypotheticals?

Victor: You mean like if i offer a man half a billion dollars to get the hell out of town and start a new life, and he’s still here? You mean like that hypothetical?

Ashland: I’ve honored the terms of the deal. I left the company. I’ve agreed to have my marriage annulled. Why you’re so upset this morning that I’m still here, I don’t know. You didn’t say a word about it last night at the hospital. In fact, you barely said a word to me at all.

Victor: Now, why the hell would I say a word to you? When I came to the hospital to see my daughter, I’m concerned about my daughter’s welfare, not yours. You think I came here to check up on you?

Ashland: The thought never occurred to me.

Victor: Tell me what happened. (Woman) is there a natural litter that actually works?!

Ashland: You and your family may despise, and for good reason, but my love for victoria has always been genuine.

Victor: Please spare me all that romantic nonsense, okay? You can keep it for your diary. Just give me the facts about the accident. What happened?

Ashland: I left the office last night.

Victor: You mean victoria threw you out.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] And I wanted to make sure she was okay, so I hung around the building for a while, but then i spotted your two guys. I figured they were there to try to run me out of town somehow. I drove around for a bit and i lost them. I went back to newman tower about the same time victoria was leaving. I thought she was going home. There was a lot of fog. I was worried about her, so i decided to follow her, make sure she got there safely. Turned out she was going for a much longer drive.

Victoria: I don’t really remember much. It’s all a blur.

[ Sighs ] I was upset, and I was on the phone with you. I don’t remember after that.

Nikki: Well, the police will investigate. They’ll be able to piece it all together and maybe give you some more answers that can alleviate some of your guilt.

Ashland: Out on the highway, I kept my distance following her. I saw a car approaching from the other direction.

Victor: You mean rey rosales’ car.

Ashland: Yeah, that’s right. I didn’t find that out till later. He was driving erratically. I don’t known why. Maybe he was trying to avoid something in the road, but…it was hard through the fog to see from that distance. I did see his car, though, veer into victoria’s lane, come straight at her. She swerved, went off the road, straight into a tree. I was watching her. I didn’t realize that rey was now coming straight at me, so i turned very sharply, and he slammed into the side of my car. I guess the impact made him flip over. I don’t know. I — I didn’t see that happen, but, uh…when I saw the car later, it was upside down. I ran into something and was knocked unconscious. Not for very long, I think. But when I came to…I saw victoria, I saw the flames. I struggled to get out of my car. I rushed to her. The flames were getting more and more intense, but I didn’t care. I just knew that I had to rescue her. I pulled her out with only seconds to spare before the car was engulfed in flames.

Victoria: One minute I was driving, and then I was surrounded by flames and being pulled out of the car. And he carried me to safety.

Nikki: Ashland.

Victoria: He risked his life to save mine. The very person that I wanted to forget and…the reason that i was out driving in the first place.

[ Sighs ]

Victor: You saved my daughter’s life by risking your own. In spite of all the disdain and disgust I feel for you, in spite of all the harm and damage you’ve done to my family… I’m grateful.

Victoria: Ashland was there. And he saved my life. My life, not rey’S. Which only compounds my grief and my guilt.

Nikki: Victoria, stop thinking that way. What happened to rey is heartbreaking, but, my god, you’re alive. And for that, I will thank god and even ashland.

Sharon: And that’s all we know right now, but if I get more details, I will call you and let you know, of course. I’m so, so sorry. Please give my love to arturo and lola and the entire family. Yeah, let me know — let me know if you need anything, okay? We will get through this together, celeste. Um, listen, I’m going to handle the funeral arrangements from my end, but I will coordinate with you in case you have any specific requests and — what? Oh. Uh, okay, I understand. I will be in touch, then. Goodbye.

Nick: You’re very brave for making that call.

Sharon: I had to, mother to mother. She was very strong.

Noah: She’s probably still in shock.

Nick: Yeah, we all are. What did she say at the end of the phone call? It seemed like it bothered you. If you’ve been living with heart disease,

Mariah: Mom, is there anything we can do?

Tessa: We can help with calls or the arrangements?

Sharon: Well, I just made the hardest call.

Mariah: To celeste. Oh, my god, lola. I didn’t even think — we need to call lola.

Tessa: Oh, no, let her mom break the news. We can talk to her later.

Sharon: Well, we still have a lot of people we do need to call.

Noah: I already took care of our immediate family, mom.

Sharon: Oh, thank you, noah. What about chelsea and connor? Connor, that poor kid. Rey was supposed to take him to a game. He — he loved rey.

Faith: Everybody loved rey, mom.

Sharon: He’s really gonna take this hard. Who — who’s gonna tell connor?

Nick: I talked to adam. He’s gonna handle it.

Adam: I haven’t told connor yet. I think it’s a conversation that we both need to be a part of.

Chelsea: Thank you for waiting.

Adam: Mm-hmm. I kept him out of school. I didn’t tell him why, I just — I didn’t want him to hear it from teachers or from any of the other kids.

Chelsea: That’s a good idea. Sorry, I’m just having a — I’m just having a hard time comprehending all this. Um…but — but connor has to be our focus.

[ Exhales sharply ]

Adam: I agree. Um…but we have to tell him soon. I mean, everyone’s gonna be talking about this at the ranch, and I want him to hear it from us.

Chelsea: You’re right, we need to take care of connor. He’s a sensitive kid. And he adored rey. I mean, their bond was — was growing. This is going to be very, very hard on him.

Adam: Do you want to come with me now?

Chelsea: I think we should tell him here.

Adam: Okay, well, I will go get him. Give you some time to process the news. We just have to be careful what we say to him.

Chelsea: Of course.

Adam: Chels, this was a horrible accident, and it wasn’t anybody’s fault. We need to make sure that he understands that.

Ashland: I don’t need or expect gratitude from you or any of the newmans. I saved victoria because she needed to be saved, and I will never stop loving her.

Victor: And my thanks and gratitude for that is all you will get. You will leave town and never set foot in my daughter’s life again.

Ashland: That should be up to victoria.

Victor: Let me make myself clear. One act does not change our arrangement. If it hadn’t been for you, victoria would not have been on that road. You are responsible for her being on that road and for that accident and for rey rosales’ death as anyone.

Ashland: Victor, I’m not leaving town. I need time to heal.

Victor: You will leave town. We made a deal. You better keep up your end of that deal. Otherwise, you will have hell to pay.

[ Door slams ]

Mariah: Hey, mom.

Sharon: Yeah?

Mariah: I just wanted to let you know, if you need someone to stay here, to help out or…or even just somebody to talk to.

Tessa: Or faith can stay with us if you want to be alone.

Sharon: Thank you, but you don’T… we don’t need any more disruptions to our normal routine, okay? This is upsetting enough without more disruptions.

Tessa: Okay. We’ll stay put.

Mariah: Yeah.

Sharon: Hey, well, besides, you two need to spend time together. You have a wedding to plan. It’s right around the corner you know.

Mariah: Mom, no.

Sharon: What do you mean?

Tessa: The wedding is a non-issue.

Mariah: Yeah, under the circumstances, we couldn’t possibly go through with it. We’ll just postpone it until a later date.

Sharon: No, I’m not gonna let you do that. Go with simparica trio it’s triple protection made simple!

Tessa: Sharon…this isn’t a time for celebration.

Mariah: Without rey at the wedding, it’s just not gonna be the same.

Sharon: You cannot delay. Rey was so happy for you two.

Faith: I’m sure rey would understand pushing the wedding date.

Sharon: No, you’re wrong. You cannot delay this. Rey would absolutely hate it if he were responsible for you delaying your big day.

Nick: Let’s just take it one step at a time, okay? I mean, this just happened. Let’s focus on the funeral and the arrangements. We don’t have to make any decisions about the wedding right now.

Mariah: Hey, what’s wrong?

Sharon: The funeral. Celeste, when I talked to her earlier, the thing that she asked about was…they want to, um, be able to bring rey home for the funeral. She wants rey to be laid to rest in miami.

[ Cellphone vibrates ]

Victoria: This is victoria.

Ashland: Thank you for answering. I wasn’t sure you would.

Victoria: Of course. Just hold a moment. Mom, I have to take this. Thank you for checking on me.

Nikki: I’ll see you later.

Victoria: What do you want?

Rey: I don’t want to intrude. I’d just be a third wheel in your mother-son time. I know how much connor treasures his time alone with you.

Chelsea: Oh, no, no, no, no. No, no, you’ve got it all wrong. When I first told connor that i would be taking him to chicago, his first question, “yeah, but rey’s still coming with us, too, right?”

[ Laughs ] He really wants to watch this game with you. You’ve become his new best friend. Please don’t let him down.

Rey: I’d be happy to go with you.

Chelsea: [ Crying ] Ever leave your clothes in the dryer

Ashland: I looked for you at the hospital after my burns were treated. I, um… they said you’d already left. I just wanted to know if you were okay and find out what the doctor said.

Victoria: I’m gonna be fine. I, um, have a couple of bruises and a sprained knee. I guess I got lucky.

Ashland: Good. I’m — I’m glad to hear that. I keep replaying it in my mind — the fire, the twisted metal. It was like some kind of a hellscape or something. It could have been a lot worse.

Victoria: But you pulled me out.

Ashland: Thank god.

Victoria: How are you? Your burns looked really painful. How’s your foot?

Ashland: There’s pain, but — but I can handle it, so… in fact, I, um — I probably deserve it.

Victoria: Well, the person who didn’t deserve what he got last night was rey.

Ashland: I agree.

Victoria: [ Sniffles ] I can’t help feeling responsible.

Ashland: No, victoria, you have to find a way to let go of that guilt. If you want to blame somebody, blame me, okay?

Victoria: How can I do that when you saved me? Where are you?

Ashland: I spent the night at the grand phoenix. I’ll be leaving town soon.

Victoria: I assumed that was the case.

Ashland: I’m sorry. For everything.

Victoria: I… I have to go.

Nick: How do you feel about rey being buried in miami?

Sharon: I don’t know. I never even considered it until celeste mentioned it just now on the phone. I just assumed that rey would be buried here, but I understand, you know, he was born and raised in miami, and to celeste, that is his home.

Faith: This is home, too.

Sharon: Well, I feel the same way. This is his home. He belongs here with me, with us. We are his family.

Noah: Yeah, but there’s another side to it. If any of us were to move away and, god forbid, something happened, mom, she would move heaven and earth to get us back here to genoa city. It’s our home. I’m sure rey’s mom feels the same way.

Sharon: As a mother, I do understand where celeste is coming from. I still just feel like rey belongs here with us. Any suggestions?

Nick: I think you should take some time with this. You don’t have to make a decision about it right now.

Sharon: [ Sighs ] You know who was always good at helping me make choices like this? Rey.

Connor: What’s wrong, mom?

Chelsea: I’m just tired. You’re still wearing your hockey jersey.

Connor: Yeah.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ]

Connor: I can tell something’s wrong. What’s going on? Why’d you keep me home from school? It’s never anything good when you guys want to talk to me together. Am I in trouble?

Adam: No. No, not at all.

Chelsea: Um…connor, we have to tell you something that’s very sad.

Connor: What is it?

Chelsea: Um…I don’t know how to say it, so I’m just gonna say it.

[ Sighs ] Um…

Adam: Rey was in a car accident.

Connor: Is he alright?

Adam: He, um…I’m very sorry to say this, connor, but rey died.

Connor: No, that can’t be true. I just saw him last night.

Chelsea: It’s a shock, i know, connor.

Connor: Is that why he didn’t come back to crimson lights? Did he die because he went home to get the hockey tickets?

Adam: It was an accident. It was unexpected, and nobody —

nobody — is to blame.

Connor: But he was driving because he was taking me to a game.

Adam: No one knows what caused it. The weather was bad. There could’ve been something on the road. But the point is none of this is your fault. Do you understand? What happened to rey is very, very sad. But your plans had nothing to do with rey’s accident.

Connor: I feel bad.

Chelsea: I know.

Adam: I know. And it’s okay.

Connor: But I really feel bad for mom. They’d become such good friends.

Chelsea: You’re right. We did become good friends. And I’m gonna miss him a lot. Hi, I’m pat and I’m 75 years old.

Victor: Sweetheart, I just ran into your mother. She said you’d be working here.

Victoria: There’s a lot to be done.

Victor: Don’t you think you should leave company business alone right now? You need to rest, you know.

Victoria: The future of newman/locke is entirely on my shoulders. I don’t want to let anyone down.

Victor: Sweetheart, I find your determination admirable, but this is too much now. You need to rest.

Victoria: That’s why I’m behind. I need to get caught up.

Victor: Okay. Well, what do you think if we had adam continue as temporary ceo, you know? He can run the whole thing until you have sorted everything out with ashland locke.

Victoria: Absolutely not.

Adam: Well, maybe we should head back to the ranch. You know what? We could stop for some ice cream on the way back.

Connor: I think I’m too sad for ice cream.

Chelsea: And it’s okay to be sad. You should go with your dad, and we’ll do something together later, okay? Something to honor rey’s memory.

Connor: I’d like that.

Chelsea: [ Crying ] Ah!

[ Sobbing ]

Sharon: I was so worried about that little duckling, but rey took care of it. We went down to the lake, and he rescued her.

Faith: I could listen to stories about rey all day.

Sharon: Me too. But I have something that I have to go and do.

Tessa: What’s that?

Sharon: I need to go to the morgue. Rey’s body is there. And I need to say goodbye. Who knows, maybe it’ll help me decide about the funeral.

Nick: Well, I will drive you.

Sharon: Thank you.

Nick: We’ll leave whenever you’re ready.

Sharon: Alright.

Noah: Mom…

Sharon: NoaH…I’m fine. Okay, we can go.

Mariah: Mom, wait. There’s just something I have to tell you. And it’s what you would have — and you have — told me in the past. Please let your emotions out. We’re strong enough to handle your grief and we want to help you through it.

Faith: Yeah. You said we’re all in this together. Let us be here for you.

Noah: You’re always worried about everyone else.

Mariah: But you just lost your husband.

Tessa: You can be yourself with us. We’re not afraid of your tears.

Nick: I couldn’t agree more, sharon. You say you’re okay, but you have to be in pain. Just share that with us.

Sharon: I am going to be strong. I need to be strong, because if I let go, I may never recover.

Nikki: Where did the accident happen?

Victor: Apparently near that blue house out on highway b, you know, just outside of town.

Nikki: And your security team is going out there?

Victor: Hopefully they’ll be there very soon.

Nick: Has anybody seen or heard from ashland since they lost track of him?

Victor: No, and that’s the point. I’m very concerned that he might have been involved in that chaos.

Nick: I got to get out there to the scene myself.

Nikki: I’m gonna go with you.

Victor: No, sweetheart, if you go, then I go.

Nick: No, no, no, look. We all know it’s better for everyone if you both stay here. We don’t know what’s going on out there. We don’t know if victoria’s even involved. What’s gonna happen if she shows up here, looking for us, and we’re not here?

Nikki: Okay, you’re right.

Victor: Thanks, son. Now, please, drive carefully. It’s very bad weather out there, okay?

Nikki: Let us know as soon as you hear anything.

Nick: I will. Try not to worry, alright? She’s gonna be fine.

Victor: Go, my boy.

Victoria: No. No, no, no, no, no. R-rey cannot be dead.

Ashland: I am so sorry.

Victoria: No, just — just tell me again. Just tell me one more time, because I — I don’t think I’m hearing things right.

Ashland: I didn’t want to believe it either, but it’s true.

Victoria: I was talking with my mother on the phone, and then, uh… you have to be wrong. I mean, he can’t be — you don’t even know rey.

Ashland: I’ve seen him around town. I recognized him.

Victoria: I know rey. I know rey really well. I know how hard he works and i know — I know how much he loves his wife, and I know that he took time off of his job so that he could help her when she got sick because he adores her. And she told me that he’s the one that saved her life, so, no. No, no. No, I — you can’t sit there and tell me that it’s rey.

Ashland: Victoria, I’m positive. I’m sorry.

Victoria: Well, then you’re wrong, you’re wrong, and we should go and check. We should go out there and check and see, because whoever it is, we owe it to him and his family to make sure that — that he gets help, because I know it’s not rey.

Ashland: We can’t —

Victoria: We can, we can. We go right now. I — I have to see what happened, so maybe there’s still time to help him. This cannot be —

Ashland: You are in no condition to go anywhere.

Victoria: No, take me there now, damn it. Take me now, take me now.

Chance: Ooh, the wildest hockey game I’ve ever seen… oh, this one was unreal, because one team, you see, had nothing but talent — best players from the best schools — and the other team, they looked like they didn’t even know what a hockey stick was.

Chelsea: Chance.

Chance: No, it’s true, it’s true. It should’ve been a blowout, right? But the goalie for the underdogs, right? This man was in it to win it. He didn’t let that puck come anywhere near that goal. And there was this one time, right? That thing was coming right down the ice, looked like there was nowhere else for that thing to go besides the back of the net. And it took one look at that goalie and it stopped — right there in the middle of the ice. Just put on the brakes.

Connor: Did not.

Chance: Oh, it did. I saw it with my own eyes.

Connor: That must have been so much fun.

Connor: Oh, it was the best. Are you kidding me?

[ Chuckles ] But don’t you worry, you’re gonna see plenty of hockey games in your lifetime, man.

Chelsea: He’s right, you know.

Sharon: Rey’s gonna make it up to you. He was really looking forward to hanging out with you tonight.

Connor: It’s okay. He probably got called away on some important police business. Right, chance?

Connor: Hey, that’s the thing about being a cop — you’re on duty all day, every day.

Connor: Like being a superhero. Even if you’re in the middle of dinner or doing homework, if you’re needed, you go.

Chance: That’s right, that’s right. I mean, sharon, you must know all about that. How many meals have been interrupted because of rey’s job?

Sharon: Oh, more times than i care to recall.

Chance: I mean, it goes with the territory.

Connor: Okay. What was your favorite hockey game?

Chance: Ooh. My favorite favorite? Okay, wow. Walnut grove warriors versus the rock creek rowdies.

Connor: Seriously?

Chance: Seriously. I mean, those rowdies got more grit than any team I’ve ever seen. I mean, those kids lived, breathed, and they ate ice. All year long, they actually eat ice. They got no teeth. They’re all gum.

Connor: [ Laughs ]

Chance: I swear, and those rowdies were dangerous, I tell you, and they never lost a game. Till they played old walnut grove.

Victoria: Rey could be — he could be unconscious or he could be severely injured, and we just have to find a phone. We have to — we have to find a phone. We have to make sure that he stays warm and that he’s safe until help comes.

Victoria: Nobody should’ve been on the road. I wasn’t thinking.

Ashland: It’s dangerous, yes, at any speed.

Victoria: Was I speeding? I didn’t think I was going fast.

Ashland: No, no, no, that’s not what I’m saying. The police will figure all that out later, okay? Right now, our job is to get you to a hospital and get you help.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Your hand is burned.

Ashland: I’m fine.

Victoria: You’re lying.

Ashland: It’s what I do.

Victoria: Pain looks excruciating.

Ashland: Victoria, this — this is gonna be fine. I’m — I’m worried about you. You might have internal injuries. We have to get you somewhere you can get scanned and x-rayed, and we have to do it as soon as possible.

Victoria: I’m fine.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] Really? You think maybe we can get a doctor’s second opinion on that?

Sharon: After what you put him through, I think he went above and beyond the call of duty to let you know that he had forgiven you and that he was rooting for you to get back up on your feet again. That’s the kind of guy rey is. That’s why I love him so much. He’s kind and generous.

Chelsea: I know, and for that, I was very grateful.

Sharon: But when your relationship went beyond the point of forgiveness and he actually started treating you more like a friend, well —

Chelsea: Listen, that’s correct, rey is a friend. And no matter what we went through in the past, because of the dark things I was experiencing, he was there for me and my kid. And I’ll always consider that a gift, but if you feel like I’ve overstepped —

Sharon: No, I’m not accusing you of anything. It’s just I’ve had these feelings lately, and then i pretend like they don’t exist. And I try not to live my life like that. That’s why I’m sharing this with you. Not that you owe me an answer.

[ Sighs ] The truth is rey is an incredible man. He’s great with kids. He’s a great friend to me. Obviously, he knows how to be in a relationship without any pain or drama. But the reality is, rey is very married. And you two are very happy.

[ Chuckles ] The chilly air is good for something besides making fog. Here you go. Put, uh, one on your knee and drink this one, okay? That one will help with the swelling. Okay?

Victoria: Thank you.

Ashland: Alright, I really should go back out and see if i can find someone that can help us.

Victoria: Yeah, of course. Go.

Ashland: I will go as soon as you give me your word that you’re not gonna try to walk on that leg and do more damage.

[ Sighs ]

Ashland: Okay. Alright. I’ll be back with help as soon as possible.

Victoria: Ashland. Thank you…for saving me.

Sharon: Um, if you do happen to run into your handsome partner, would you tell him to give his wife a call?

Chance: First thing. ‘Night.

Chelsea: ‘Night.

Victor: I see they have molten chocolate cake. Mm, delicious. You want some?

Nikki: No, thank you, darling. Don’t let me stop you, though.

Victor: We can split it. I mean, mm, dark, molten chocolate — ooh.

Nikki: I know what you’re doing. Trying to distract me from worrying about victoria.

[ Cellphone rings ] Yes, my boy?

Nick: Yeah, I’m at the scene of the accident.

Victor: And?

Nick: Well, all I can see is wreckage.

Victor: How bad is it?

Nick: As far as I can tell, there’s three cars involved. One of them’s definitely victoria’S.

Victor: How is she?

Nick: I don’t know, dad. She isn’t here, which I got to think is good news, considering the condition her car is in.

Victor: That may be good news. Maybe she walked away from the wreck.

Nikki: Thank god, thank god.

Nick: Yeah, she probably went to try and find help with ashland.

Victor: What do you mean ashland?

Ashland: I know you probably won’t believe me right now. I mean…after all of this, why should you? But…but when I was in my car and I regained consciousness, got my bearings, looked around, and I saw you, and I saw the flames around you, I had only one thought — I had to save you. You are the reason I found the strength to free myself. I had to pull you out of those flames. I couldn’t let that kind of thing happen to you. I couldn’t let you die in a burning car.

Victoria: The way that the real ashland locke died in a car crash. The irony isn’t lost on me.

Ashland: Yeah, well, I didn’t really think about a — a whole lot else until I knew that you were…you were safe. But, yes, I made the connection later, when you were out of danger. And it hit me hard. It took me right back to that night. To the friend I couldn’t save. Victoria, I…I don’t want to think about that right now. Right now my job is to get you help and get you safe.

Victoria: What is that so important to you? Why can’t you just let me go?

Victor: What the hell does ashland locke have to do with any of this?

Nick: His car is one of the ones that was involved. I recognize it.

Victor: But no sign of him or victoria?

Nick: Nothing.

[ Siren wails ] Alright, hold on. I can’t hear you.

[ Siren fades ] Okay.

Victor: Well, wait a minute, son. You said there were three cars involved. What happened to the third driver?

Nick: Yeah, it was, uh — it was rey.

Victor: What?

Nick: It was rey rosales.

Victor: Rey rosales — are you serious?

Nick: He didn’t make it.

Victor: Oh, boy.

Nick: Yeah. I mean, this is gonna break sharon’s heart and faith and arturo and lola. I mean…everybody loves this guy.

Victor: Son, any sign of victoria?

Nick: No, which means she’s probably alive. We have to get to her, wherever she is.

Victor: So where are you now? Okay, we’ll be there.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] Poor sharon. How was ashland involved?

Victor: I have no idea. We’ll find out when we get there, okay?

Sharon: So, what do you think about my new ooey-gooey chocolate chip cookie?

Connor: I should have another, just to be sure.

Chelsea: Oh, you will do nothing of the sort. One is more than enough.

Connor: It’s important work. You don’t want to make any mistakes when it comes to tasting.

Sharon: You didn’t happen to hear that from rey, did you?

Connor: Yeah, he says you always need to eat at least two cookies to figure out if you like them.

Sharon: I’m gonna have to have a talk with detective rosales when he comes back.

Connor: He’s the best.

Sharon: He is, isn’t he?

Connor: I’ll take this to the tray. He also told me to clean up after myself.

Chelsea: I tell you that all the time.

Connor: Well, it’s different when he says it.

Chelsea: Oh. Oh, he’s growing up so fast.

Sharon: Rey really adores him.

Chelsea: Yeah, well, the feeling’s mutual.

Sharon: Hey, I meant it when I said I wasn’t accusing you of anything tonight, but if it did come across that way, it’s just been one of those nights.

Chelsea: I’m glad we talked.

Sharon: I am, too.

Chelsea: Ooh, well, it’s getting late.

Sharon: Listen, I’m sorry that things didn’t work out tonight.

Chance: We’re gonna continue to look for victoria and ashland. Don’t worry.

Nick: My parents are on their way.

Chance: Nobody ought to be on the road on a night like this. I mean, just seeing the damage that victoria’s car took.

Nick: It looks like it caught on fire. Victoria’s lucky to have walked away.

Chance: She was.

Nick: Rey, man… I don’t even know what to say. He was your partner.

Chance: Yeah. I mean, we were all just at crimson lights earlier. He was just going home to get the tickets for the hockey game. Station called me and told me about the accident, said there was a fatality, and I, uh…i don’t know, I just got a feeling that something bad went down.

Nick: You okay?

Chance: I got to be, for rey’s sake.

Nick: Yeah, when you — when you left sharon, did you mention anything to her?

Chance: No. I was hoping I was wrong.

Nick: She needs to know.

Chance: I can send someone from the station to talk to her.

Nick: No. This isn’t something she should hear about from some stranger, even if it is one of rey’s colleagues.

Chance: Yeah, I agree. Since I got to stay here, i think you should be the one that breaks the news to her. Waxed.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Man, this is gonna be tough. But I can’t let sharon hear about rey from anybody else.

Chance: I think rey would want you to do this.

Nick: It’s gonna break her heart. It’s coming out of nowhere. It will shatter her.

Chance: That’s why she needs to hear it from someone she can trust. Someone she can lean on. Look, I know you’re worried about your sister, but I’m gonna find her.

Nick: Ashland, too. You find him, you let me know.

Chance: As soon as I get anything, I’ll call you. We’re gonna get your sister the help she needs.

Sharon: Hi, honey. Um…nothing important, just calling to check in on you again. Have I told you lately that i love you? Um…call me, okay? Just let me know where you are and that everything’s okay.

Victoria: Why do you keep saying that you have these feelings for me when you accepted a payoff in exchange to say that our marriage wasn’t real and it didn’t exist?

Ashland: That contract i signed is a meaningless piece of paper.

Victoria: Yeah. Much like our marriage license.

Ashland: It has nothing to do with how I really feel about you.

Victoria: I told you how i feel. I lied to you about wanting to — to run off with you, ’cause I wanted you to sign away the company and I wanted to get you out of my life. So why did you follow me from newman tower? What was your brilliant plan?

Ashland: There was no plan. I — I told you before, I knew you were upset when you left the office. I wanted to make sure that you were alright.

Victoria: What do you want from me? You risked your life to save mine. I want to know why.

Ashland: Victoria…I love you. No matter what’s happened, no matter — no matter what’s come between us, you mean everything to me.

Victoria: [ Scoffs ] Is that your way of trying to get me to forgive you?

Ashland: This wasn’t calculated. I wasn’t thinking that maybe — I couldn’t imagine a world without you in it. I know you hate me now. That’s fine, I’ll figure out a way to live with that as long as I know you’re alive.

Nikki: Maybe she’s in here. Victoria, can you hear me?

Victoria: Mom!

Ashland: She hurt her leg in the accident.

Victor: When we have questions for you, we’ll ask you.

Nikki: We need to get you to a hospital, honey.

Victoria: Did you see the accident, the cars out there? There was a fire.

Victoria: Have you heard anything about rey?

Victor: That’s nothing for you to worry about right now, okay?

Victoria: Well, I am worried because ashland told me that he didn’t survive, and I think maybe he’s wrong because I would know.

Nikki: The paramedics are there, and they are handling everything.

Victor: Sweetheart, they’ll take you to the hospital to make sure that you’re alright.

Victoria: I will go when you tell me what happened to rey. Listen, I’m done settling. Because this is my secret.

Nick: Hey.

Sharon: Oh, god, scared me.

Nick: Sorry.

Sharon: You don’t have to be sorry. How’s victoria?

Nick: We haven’t found her. She wasn’t with her car.

Sharon: Well, that’s good news, right?

Nick: Yeah, we’re just waiting on word.

Sharon: Well, why don’t you sit down? I’ll put on a fresh pot of coffee. We can talk about mariah’s wedding plans while we wait.

Nick: Um…sharon, I —

Sharon: I just took a tray of brownies out of the oven. That’s why it smells so amazing in here. They’re rey’s favorites. I also whipped up a batch of cinnamon buns. He’s just gonna flip when he sees those. He always sneaks a few home to faith. Must be working on something really important. Just never ends, you know? I don’t know which one he likes the most — the brownies or the buns or…or me. You know what’s amazing? He could be dead asleep, and i would some of those babies in the oven and like that, he would be awake. Must be growing up with lola’s cooking, you know? He has a cast-iron stomach now.

Nick: There’s something i need to tell you.

Sharon: I know. I know.

[ Cries ] Just give me a minute, please. Just a minute before everything falls apart. Because if you tell me what i think you’re about to tell me?

Nick: Uh…rey was involved in the accident.

Sharon: [ Sobbing ]

Victor: Nicholas got the crash site just before the paramedics arrived.

Victoria: Where’s rey now?

Nikki: The paramedics were putting him into the ambulance.

Victoria: So he’s alive?

Victor: No, sweetheart, he’s not. He didn’t make it.

Victoria: Oh, god.

Nikki: Nicholas has gone to break the news to sharon.

Victoria: I have to do something. I have to fix this.

Nikki: No, no, no.

Ashland: Victoria…it was an accident. It wasn’t your fault.

Victor: What in the world are you even doing here, ashland? Are you responsible for this accident?

Victoria: No, dad, it’s not ashland’s fault. I swerved to avoid rey’s car, and I crashed into a tree and there were flames and I was knocked unconscious, and if ashland hadn’t pulled me out… he saved my life.

Nick: There were three cars.

Sharon: No.

Nick: Yeah. Ashland’s, victoria’s, and…

Sharon: And rey? Oh, my god. Oh, my god.

Nick: I talked to the emts. There wasn’t anything they could do.

Sharon: [ Sobbing ] No!

Nick: There wasn’t anything anyone could do, sharon. It was too late.

Sharon: No. I c– I can’t — I can’t — I can’t — [ Sobbing ]

Victor: What is wrong?

Nikki: The call dropped.

Victor: What happened?

Nikki: I-I-I don’t know. We were just talking and then all of a sudden she started screaming and it sounded like a car crash.

Victor: What did she say? Did she say anything or what?

Nikki: Nothing. Silence. Oh, my god.

Victor: Call her right back. Call her right back right now.

Nikki: Okay.

[ Turn signal clicking ]

Nick: Well, you said it’s been a long day, so I’m not gonna hold you up. Why don’t you get me a coffee to go and then I’ll let you get out of here and go see your husband and have a nice night.

Sharon: Uh, that won’t be happening.

Nick: Why not?

Sharon: Well, I’m sure that rey is going to have a nice night, but it won’t be with me.

Sally: Oh, my god. It is like you have never done this before.

Adam: What? Got a key card to work?

Sally: Yeah. That.

Adam: Well, I’m just happy that we got the room, despite phyllis’s ban on you being here.

Sally: Okay, well, you’re gonna be a lot happier in a few minutes if you don’t blow it now.

[ Lock whirs, disengages ]

[ Door closes ]

[ Both breathing heavily ]

[ Both chuckle ]

Sally: [ Laughs ]

Adam: Hey, uh, sally. It is me. Um, I’m at the suite. And thank you for the, uh, exquisite bottle of champagne. I wish you were, uh, here to share it with me, but, um, don’t rush. The, um, fog looks like it’s getting even worse out there. So just take your time and be safe. And I will be here waiting patiently.

[ Breathes deeply ]

[ Turn signal clicking ]

Ashland: [ Exhales heavily ]

[ Groans lightly ]

[ Exhales sharply ]

[ Sighs ] Victoria.

Sharon: Rey agreed to take connor to the game, and then chelsea’s trip got postponed. And she was able to get another ticket to the game, so now they’re all going together.

Nick: Okay. Um…I hope you know you don’t have any reason to feel threatened or jealous that chelsea is going with him.

Sharon: No. Of course not. Why would I feel threatened by her?

Nick: Well, I’ve been to lots of blackhawk games, and going to a hockey game with a kid in tow is the opposite of a romantic thing. Plus, I just — I don’t think you have any reason to worry about rey.

Sharon: No. I agree. He is 100% trustworthy. But she — not so much. You know she’s capable of doing anything. And don’t get me wrong. I have noticed an enormous change in her since she’s been back in town, and I fully believe that people can turn their lives around. But, um, did I mention that they are spending the night? Yeah, it’s hard not to just instinctively jump to conclusions when it comes to her.

Connor: Mom, we’re going to miss the puck drop if we don’t leave soon. What’s taking rey so long?

Chelsea: I don’t know. I thought for sure he’d be back by now. Let me call him. Hey. It’s me. Just checking in. Wondering if you were on your way back yet. We just know we have a long drive ahead of us, and connor doesn’t want to be late to the game. I’m sure you’ll be walking through these doors any minute, but if not, can you just let us know when you’re on your way back here? Thanks. Hey. Don’t worry. We still have plenty of time to make it.

Nikki: Victoria, sweetheart, please call me back. Your father and I are very worried. We want to make sure you’re okay. Why isn’t she answering?

Victor: Did she say where she was before the phone went dead?

Sharon: No. She just said she went for a drive to clear her head and she knew that you and I would be worried, so she wanted to make sure that we knew she was okay.

Victor: [ Sighs heavily ] Pay close attention now. I want you to find my daughter victoria as quickly as you can, okay? We have reason to believe she may have been in an accident. Now, she was at newman tower last, so check all the roads between newman tower, her house, and newman ranch. Is that clear? Check all the side roads, as well. You get back to me as soon as you can. [ Cellphone thuds ]

[ Sighs ]

Ashland: [ Grunting ] Come on! Victoria! Can you hear me?! Are you okay?! Victoria!

[ Turn signal clicking ] My phone. Where’s my phone? Come on. Come on.

[ Grunts ] Okay. Okay. Victoria! I’m calling for help right now! I’m calling the police! Hang in there! Come on. Damn it.

[ Breathing heavily ]

Nick: Look, I agree with you. Chelsea’s not the most trustworthy of people. But your husband’s solid, you know? I just don’t think you have anything to worry about there.

Sharon: No. You’re right. I just don’t know why a hockey game has to turn into an overnight trip.

Nick: Well, I don’t even think rey wants to go that bad. I mean, otherwise, he would have already been on the road, right?

Sharon: Thanks, nick. You always know how to make me feel better.

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Nick: You’re welcome. Oh. It’s dad. Hey. What’s going on? I was just about to come and meet you and mom.

Victor: Have you spoken with victoria?

Nick: Uh, not since everything blew up earlier. What’s going on?

Victor: Your mother was on the phone with victoria, and suddenly the phone went dead. And we think it might have been because of an accident.

Nick: When?

Victor: Just a short while ago. Son, do you have any idea where victoria might have been taking a drive?

Nick: No, dad, I don’T. But I’ll leave here now, and I’ll start looking for her myself.

Victor: Wait a minute. I contacted the police already, and my team is looking for her. So, if you do go out, please drive carefully, alright? The weather is horrible.

Nick: Yeah. I will. I’ll call you if I find out anything.

Sharon: Nick. What happened? Is it victoria?

Nick: Yeah, dad said she may have been in a car accident. Um…I got to go. If she shows up here, will you let me know?

Sharon: Yeah. Of course. But you know what? I wouldn’t worry. She’s probably fine.

Nick: Yeah. I hope.

Chelsea: Hey, uh, is everything okay?

Sharon: Um…yeah. Hopefully it’s a false alarm, nothing to worry about.

Chelsea: Okay. Good. Um, have you heard from rey? He should have been back by now, and he’s not answering any of my calls.

Victor: Uh, listen, I’m checking with everyone to see if they’ve heard from victoria or have any idea where she may have gone.

Adam: I haven’t heard a word. I mean, of course I would be her last call, emergency or not. Is there anything I can do to help?

Victor: No, son. Thank you.

Adam: Okay. Well, um, if you can think of anything that I can do, let me know.

Victor: Yeah, I will.

Adam: In the meantime, just remember that, uh, victoria’s strong. She’s, uh — she’s tough enough to handle herself in any situation.

Victor: Yeah, you’re right about that.

[ Sighs ] We’ve got to find her.

Sally: What’s wrong?

Adam: Uh…we’re not, uh, positive, but, um, victoria might have been in a car accident. We don’t have any specifics or even a confirmation.

Sally: Oh, no. That’s horrible.

Adam: Yeah. It is. But, um, let’s not jump to the worst case just yet.

Sally: Yeah. No. Of course.

Adam: Yeah.

Sally: Hopefully everything turns out to be okay.

Adam: Yeah. Um…I’m sorry. This, uh, kind of puts a damper on our celebration.

Sally: I totally understand. There’s plenty of time for that. Is there anything we can do to help your family?

Adam: I just — I don’t know.

Ashland: [ Breathing heavily ]

[ Grunts ] Help! Help! Can anybody hear me?! Help!

[ Breathing heavily ]

[ Grunting ]

[ Breathing heavily ] So, you found the no7 then.

Ashland: Victoria! Ahh! Ahh! Ahh!

[ Groans ]

[ Breathing heavily ] Come on. Victoria?

[ Turn signal clicking ] Thank god you’re still alive. Okay, I’m gonna get you out of here. Here we go. Come on. Come on. Here we go. I got you.

[ Grunting ] It’s gonna be okay. It has to be. I’m not gonna let you die.

Chelsea: He’ll be back soon.

Sharon: Oh, I’m getting his voicemail, too. Hi, honey. Um, I’m sorry to bother you. I hope you got the tickets okay. We’re starting to get a little worried over here. Chelsea and connor were expecting you back awhile ago. Um…you know what? Do me a favor. Just call me and let me know where you are, okay? Love you.

[ Exhales sharply ] You know what? It’s so foggy out there. Rey’s probably going really slow and being extra cautious.

Chelsea: I remember when we went to visit my mom. He was very conscientious behind the wheel.

Sharon: Yeah, but I’m sure he’s being super conscious now because the weather is just so dicey.

Chelsea: You know what? I bet he just doesn’t think it’s safe to be on the road right now.

Sharon: Yeah.

Chelsea: What is it? Do you not believe that?

Ashland: [ Coughs ]

[ Grunts ]

[ Wood cracking, thudding ]

[ Breathing heavily ] Come on, victoria. Hang in there. Keep breathing. Come on. Easy. Easy. Easy. It’s okay. It’s okay. You’re tough, right? I mean, you — you survived everything I did to you. You can certainly survive a — a car crash. I mean, wh-what’s a little — a little smoke inhalation, right?

[ Groans ] It’s nothing.

[ Grunts, breathes heavily ] Victoria?

[ Panting ] Victoria, can you hear me? Please. Open your eyes. Wake up. You can do this. Victoria. Come on. Come on.

Victoria: [ Groans lightly ]

[ Coughing ]

Ashland: It’s okay. It’s okay.

Victoria: [ Moans ]

Ashland: Come on, victoria. Come on.

[ Breathing heavily ]

Victoria: [ Gasping ] Get away from me!

[ Breathing heavily ]

[ Whimpering ]

Sally: You don’t really believe that victoria’s in any kind of trouble, do you?

Adam: I don’t know. My dad sounded worried. I just wish somebody would call and let me know what’s going on.

Sally: I’m sure you’ll hear as soon as there’s any news.

Adam: [ Scoffs ] I’m not. This whole thing could be resolved for all I know. And nobody could have thought to call me because somehow I am always last on the list of contacts.

[ Sighs ] If I even make the list.

Sally: Okay, well, that is not true because victor just called you.

Adam: Yeah, he called me because he needed information. I’m only a priority to him when he thinks that I can be useful.

Sally: [ Scoffs ] Okay. Come on. Victor is constantly trying to shoo me out of your office so he can talk about top-secret newman family stuff with you.

Adam: Are you trying to cheer me up by pointing out my father is ruder to you than he is to me?

Sally: Is it working?

Adam: I’m not worried about being part of the inner sanctum.

Sally: Okay. Then what is eating at you?

Adam: I just want to hear a good word, okay? A simple text, if that’s all they have time for, um, anything just letting me know that victoria’s fine.

Sally: You’re really concerned about her.

Adam: Well, of course I am! You think that I would be, uh, glad that she was seriously hurt or worse? Why? Because it would give us that much better of a chance at newman/locke? Is that what you think of me?

[ Sniffs ]

[ Glass scrapes ]

Ashland: [ Coughing ] No, victoria, just — just lie back. Stay still. We don’t know yet — [ Groans ] We don’t know yet if you have any — any internal injuries or — or any broken bones. Just please just be still.

Victoria: Where are we? Why are you even here? You’re supposed to be gone.

Ashland: No. Listen to me. Listen to me. You were in a car accident. You were knocked unconscious. Your car caught fire. I was able to get you out, and i carried you here. Now, we need to get some help. Do you know if you have your cellphone on you anywhere? Mine was destroyed in the crash. It’s useless.

Victoria: No.

Ashland: Okay. Okay. Listen. Listen. I have to go back to your car and see if I can find your phone. Maybe I’ll get lucky and flag somebody down. Are you gonna be okay here for a few minutes without me?

Victoria: Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.

Ashland: Okay. Just — just try to stay still. Try to stay still. Don’t move. I’ll be back as quick as I can.

[ Grunting ]

[ Door close ]

Victoria: [ Groans ]

[ Gasps ]

[ Exhales sharply ]

[ Groaning, breathing heavily ] With depression, you just feel…blah.

Nikki: Nicholas, did you find out anything?

Nick: I’m afraid not. I went a few places where i thought vick may have gone, but I didn’t find anything. Then the fog got a lot worse. I figure I better get off the roads.

Nikki: [ Sighs heavily ] Well, I keep getting her voicemail. I’m ready to go look for her myself.

Victor: No, you will not do that, okay?

Nick: That’s not happening, alright? Nobody should be on the roads right now. It’s too dangerous.

Victoria: I don’t want to be worrying about you now.

Nick: Just let the professionals do their job. I’m sure vick will turn up, okay?

Nikki: Yeah.

Victor: You know, this is my fault.

Nikki: Well, how can you say that?

Victor: If I had not told my security team to stop tailing victoria and instead go after ashland locke, we now would have known where she is.

Nikki: Darling, you can’t blame yourself. Ashland has proven how dangerous he is. You made the right decision.

Nick: Where’s ashland right now?

Victor: I have no clue. I’m waiting for an answer.

Nick: Dad, what if, uh — what if it wasn’t an accident? What if somebody hurt victoria intentionally?

Victor: I don’t even want to think about it.

[ Cellphone ringing ] Yes? Why the hell have you been waiting so long to tell me? What do you mean, you didn’t find her? And you lost ashland locke? What is the matter with you?! Find him!

[ Cellphone slams ]

Victoria: [ Gasps ]

[ Strains, exhales sharply ]

[ Groaning ] Oh, god. Help! If anybody can hear me, help!

Ashland: Victoria? Victoria. Are you okay? I heard you calling.

Victoria: I think I injured my knee.

Ashland: Just —

Victoria: And I just was hoping that somebody would hear me. Did you find my phone?

Ashland: No.

Victoria: Is there anybody out there?

Ashland: No, your car was engulfed in flames. I-I couldn’t even get near it.

Victoria: Well, there must be a house or something nearby.

Ashland: No. There’s nothing. I looked. This is the only structure i could find. I’m sorry. I’m afraid we’re stranded.

Victoria: Well, eventually somebody’s gonna drive by and see the wreckage.

[ Breathing heavily ] Ow.

Ashland: [ Grunts ]

[ Exhaling heavily ]

Victoria: Ashland? What is it? What are you not telling me?

Sharon: I’m not worried about rey. It’s just, um, nick gave me some bad news about victoria before he left earlier.

Chelsea: What’s wrong?

Sharon: The newmans think that she may have been in an accident this evening. So I was just thinking maybe rey heard about the accident and he went to the scene? Or maybe he even witnessed it? And if he did, you know he would stop and jump in and help. It could be that he’s there right now making sure everyone’s okay, and that could be why we haven’t heard from him.

Chelsea: Maybe. I just hope victoria’s alright.

Sharon: Yeah. Me too.

Ashland: I’m sorry. I-I-I didn’t mean to alarm you. I’m just shaken up. That’s all. Seeing you in that car, unconscious, and then the fire — I’m just — I’m grateful that you’re — that you’re okay.

Victoria: What are you even doing here? How is it that you of all people even found me in my car? Was it an accident? Was it? I mean, are you the one that ran me off the road?

Ashland: No. No! I would never do anything like that. Victoria, you have to believe me. I had nothing to do with that accident, okay? But there is something I have to tell you.

Victoria: What is it?

Ashland: When you left the office, you were so upset, and with this fog, I was — I was just — the reason I was there when your car crashed… is because I was following you.

Victoria: Oh, for god’s sakes.

Ashland: No, I was just — i was just looking out after you. That’s all. You were so distraught. After our confrontation in the office, I — with the fog, I was worried about what might happen to you, and the thought of anything happening to you was terrifying to me. I know you despise me right now. I get that. But that doesn’t mean that i don’t love you and care about you. I hurt you so deeply already. I just can’t bear the thought of anything — anything ever hurting you like that again. We hit the bike trails every weekend

Sally: This is a mistake. And I don’t just mean our little celebration here.

Adam: Sally, sally, don’t —

Sally: Do you know how badly you just hurt me? To even suggest that I would be so cold and heartless and calculated about a woman’s life, clearly you don’t know me at all. I can take it from other people. I can let their harsh judgments roll off my back, but I am not gonna take it from you.

Adam: Listen, I didn’t mean it like that, okay?

Sally: You know, I am not somebody that automatically assumes the worst about you. Haven’t we already established that?

Adam: I am sorry. It was a cruel and unfair comment to make.

Sally: Do you know how deeply you just hurt me?

Adam: Yes. I do. You would actually be surprised to know how much I understand how you feel.

[ Exhales heavily ] And if you want me to be honest, okay, here goes. The truth is, I have been asking myself the same twisted question. Am I genuinely concerned about my sister? Or is a part of me thinking, if something were to happen to her, would that be a leg up for me at newman/locke?

Victoria: [ Breathing heavily ] There’s something else, isn’t there? I can tell. What is that you’re hiding from me?

Ashland: Victoria, please. You’re just — you need to lay — lay down right now. You just need to rest until we can get you some help. Is there anything that I can do here to make you more comfortable?

Victoria: What do you keep changing the subject for? What is it that you’re not saying?

Ashland: Okay, look, i understand I have not been entirely truthful with you in the past. I understand that you have doubts right now.

Victoria: No, I think that i can finally tell when you’re keeping the truth from me, so just tell me. What — what else is there? How did this accident even happen?

Ashland: Please, I’m begging you, don’t — don’t do this. Don’t tax yourself like this. You were in a terrible accident. You need to stay still until we can get you medical attention.

Victoria: I’m really trying to remember what happened and —

Ashland: Victoria.

Victoria: I can’t remember. Wait a minute. Oh, my god, there was another car. There were lights coming toward me, weren’t there? They weren’t your lights because you were behind me. You were following me, so… oh, my god, there was another car involved.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Sharon: Chance.

Chance: Hey.

Sharon: I’m so glad to see you. Did you just come from the station?

Chance: I did. I’m back at work, and I am loving it.

Sharon: Well, that’s great. I know rey is happy to have you back. Um, listen, did you happen to hear anything about a possible accident tonight, maybe an accident involving victoria newman?

Chance: No. No, not a word. I’m pretty sure that would have been big news at the station, too. Why do you ask?

Sharon: Well, nick told me that his family is worried about her. She was driving out in this fog, and now no one can reach her.

Chance: Okay, well, let me make a call and see if there’s been any new accident reports since I left.

Sharon: Thank you.

Victoria: The fog was so thick, I could barely see the road.

[ Exhales heavily ] Then suddenly, out of nowhere, there was bright lights right in front of me.

[ Gasps ] It was another car.

Ashland: The accident wasn’t your fault. You have to know that.

Victoria: All I know is that I was on the phone with my mother, on speaker. And then suddenly these headlights just came sliding right over into my lane.

Ashland: That’s right. And you had to swerve to avoid them.

Victoria: I lost control. I remember that. And then everything went black.

Ashland: Yes.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] What happened? What happened after that?

Ashland: I was behind you. You swerved to avoid the car. It was coming straight at me. I had to turn sharply sideways to avoid it, but it hit me in the side of my car. And at the same time, I saw you run into a tree. The front end of your car caught fire. And I had to str– I had to struggle to get out of my car to save you, but I did. Eventually, I did. And I pulled you out.

Victoria: [ Groans ]

[ Sighs ] Those burns on your hand. It’s from my car. You actually risked your life to save mine.

Adam: Okay, I hate that that thought even popped into my head, that I would consider for even a second the business ramifications if victoria were seriously injured.

Sally: Well, the fact that you hate it proves that you didn’t mean it.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Huh. Or maybe I’m just trying to convince myself that I’m not

that cold and selfish. I mean, let’s face it. The plan to buy off locke — it was more about impressing my father than it was about helping my sister. Her whole relationship with locke, to a lying con artist, I saw as an opportunity. Now, it’s not particularly brotherly.

Sally: Okay, come on. Victoria would have done the exact same thing if the situation were reversed. Your sibling bond is based on one-upmanship.

Adam: Yeah, because I spent years looking at her as a rival, so she felt the need to defend herself. Doesn’t say much about me.

Sally: Okay. Stop, okay? I’m not gonna let you believe that you’re cold and selfish. I know for a fact that you’re not. I know it in my heart. Because… I wouldn’t be falling in love with someone like that.

Adam: Wait a minute. Are you saying that you’re falling in love with me?

[ Cellphone slams ]

Victor: How the hell could they lose ashland locke, tonight of all nights?

Nick: Dad —

Victor: The utter incompetence!

Nick: It’s not surprising, alright? It’s really foggy out there.

Nikki: I am just so worried about her. We don’t know even know if ashland was involved or not.

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Victor: Yes? Okay. Report back to me.

[ Cellphone thuds ]

Nikki: What? What have you found out?

Victor: [ Sighs ] There’s a report of an accident.

Nikki: Oh, god, no.

[ Gasps ]

[ Cries ]

Ashland: The last time this happened, I —

[ Cries ] I turned and ran. I left my best friend to die in a burning car, and I couldn’t do that again. I-I had to do everything I could to save you.

Victoria: [ Winces ] What about the other driver? Did they just sideswipe you and — and leave us here? Was it a hit-and-run?

Ashland: No.

Victoria: Well, then… are they injured? I mean, did you see who was in the car?

Ashland: Victoria, please, you need to just stop.

Victoria: Are they still out there?

Ashland: Stop moving. You need to rest right now and take care of yourself. There’s no reason for you to be upset about the other driver.

Victoria: Ashland, stop it. Stop avoiding the question. Stop trying to protect me by lying. Just — I need to know what happened. Is the other driver okay?

Connor: Mom, what’s taking rey so long? It’s getting really late now.

Chelsea: I know, sweetheart.

Connor: We’re going to miss the game.

Chelsea: You know, I think — I think rey must have gotten caught up in some last-minute police work. But don’t worry. Even if we don’t make it to chicago tonight, rey will make it up to you. That’s just the kind of guy he is.

Ashland: When I went back to look for your phone, I checked the other car. It had gone into a ditch. It was damaged much worse than either of ours.

Victoria: And the driver?

Ashland: There was nothing i could do.

Victoria: [ Gasps ] Oh, no. Ohh. What are you saying?

Ashland: The other driver didn’t make it.

Victoria: Oh, god.

Chance: Okay. Thanks for checking for me. So, there’s been a couple fender benders due to the fog, but no major injuries reported. Now, I couldn’t get all the names, but, if anything, that’s the worst that happened to victoria.

Sharon: Oh, well, I’m glad to hear that. Now if only rey would show up.

Chance: I thought he went to the hockey game a while ago.

Sharon: No. He forgot the tickets. He had to run home and get them. Chelsea and connor are still waiting for him out on the patio. Um…he’s been gone awhile. Connor’s getting anxious that they might miss the game.

Chance: Well, yeah, I spoke to rey just as he was leaving the ranch. He grabbed the tickets, and he was coming back. I mean, he should have been here by now.

Victoria: There was a fatality? That’s awful. So awful. All I could see were the headlights.

Ashland: Victoria.

Victoria: Yes?

Ashland: I hate to be the one to tell you this, but it was someone you know.

Victoria: What? Who was it, ashland?

Ashland: Rey rosales.

Victoria: [ Exhales heavily ] Oh, my god. Oh, my god.

Ashland: Okay, I met with victor and adam, and it’s done. I see no reason to stay in this town one minute longer. You ready to go?

Victoria: Did you really think that I would run away with you, after everything you put me through? Did you really believe that this wasn’t the absolute end for us?

Ashland: I’m not sure what you’re saying right now.

Victoria: I told you whatever you wanted to hear so that you would sign everything away. I wanted out of this marriage and I want you out of this company.

Ashland: No, just — just hold on for one second. Wh–

Victoria: You pride yourself on being one step ahead of everyone else. Are you telling me you didn’t see this coming?

Ashland: Okay, okay, I will admit that I didn’t know what to think in the last few days, but when you agreed to run away with me to tuscany to — to — to get out of this town and start fresh, I thought that was our chance, victoria. I was overjoyed. I didn’t question it. I didn’t want to question it because I actually thought — and I still think — that we can get out of here and we could make this work.

Victoria: [ Groans ] Everything I said to you the past couple of days has been a lie. Not some grand fabrication that “I have cancer and I’m dying,” but a lie nonetheless. And now you know you’ve been deceived. So all of those feelings that you might be having right now of betrayal and humiliation, I know them — I know them well. It’s your turn now.

Sharon: Mr. Anderson, I told you that my husband wouldn’t appreciate — [ Gasps ] Oh, oh, it’s you.

Rey: I’m so sorry to disappoint.

Sharon: I’m not disappointed to see you ever.

Rey: Mwah.

Sharon: Especially in that jacket.

Rey: Mm. You like it?

Sharon: Very sharp. Did you get it for your trip to chicago?

Rey: No, no, not exactly, but I thought chicago would be a good place to debut it. Have you seen connor and chelsea?

Sharon: Not yet.

Rey: Thanks again for being okay with me going.

Sharon: No thanks necessary.

Rey: I know, I know, but it’s a little weird I’m taking another woman and her son to a hockey game.

Sharon: There’s nothing strange about it.

Rey: [ Chuckles ] I’m spending the night in chicago. A lot of wives would disapprove. Thank you for being so understanding.

Sharon: The most important thing is that connor will have a great time. And who are we kidding? I think that you’re more excited than he is.

Rey: Oh, it’s my first live hockey game, huh?

Sharon: Mm-hmm.

Rey: There they are!

Connor: Hey, rey.

Rey: What’s up, buddy? Ready for the big game?

Connor: Yeah, it’s going to be so fun. I get to watch the blackhawks in person, but the best part is i get to go with you, rey. No offense, mom.

Chelsea: Oh, listen, none taken. I’m just along for the ride. I feel like I’m a chaperone for these two because rey actually knows the sport and how to play the game.

Rey: Don’t undersell yourself, chelsea. It’s gonna be a great night for all of us, huh?

Victor: Thank you, son. Well, your deal worked. Ashland locke hopefully will be out of our lives very soon.

Adam: Mm. Well, it was my idea, but when ashland asked if you were on board, you backed me up. And that’s what made it successful.

Victor: We make a good team.

Adam: I’m sure victoria’s gonna be irritated that the plan that worked wasn’t hers. She never got the satisfaction, even temporarily, of throwing me under the bus. She would have loved to see me squirm.

Victor: There’s no place for sibling rivalry right now, okay? Considering what your sister’s gone through, just be happy to be rid of that fraud, okay? You should have feelings of compassion now for your sister, not competition. Alright?

Victoria: Do you know how insulting it is that you thought I would believe you were set up? I mean, how stupid did you think I would have to be to think that someone would go to all the trouble of making it look like you had faked your illness for months? Do you take me for an idiot, ashland?

Ashland: No, no, I do not. But, victoria, what was i supposed to do? With all the evidence that was being built up against me, was i supposed to come to you and say, “hey, that this terrible thing, I lied, I made a mistake”? Would you have forgiven me for that? Could you have forgiven me?

[ Sighs ] No, I don’t think so. And, no, I didn’t actually believe that you were gonna buy into the story that I had been set up. I — not in your head. But in your heart — in your heart, I thought maybe you wanted to believe it was the truth. That’s what I was hoping for.

Victoria: And that’s why you kept lying?

Ashland: I was stalling. I was trying to buy time because I honestly believed that our love would win out in the end, that — that somehow we could — we could go off and have a future together.

Victoria: Future? After what you did to me, we could never, ever have a future.

Ashland: I still think that we —

Victoria: No, stop it. There’s no point in you continuing to lie to me. You didn’t get control of newman/locke, okay? So maybe you just can take some comfort in what you do have — you have money and you have freedom.

Ashland: I don’t give a damn about the money. And I don’t care about the freedom if it means going off without you. All I want is you. Sweet pillows of softness!

Adam: Yeah, but I also recognize that this is gonna take a while to move past. She’s gonna need time to recover. And even though she is tough, you know, we need to do what’s best for her moving forward.

Victor: Exactly.

Adam: You know the brilliant part of my plan is we get to keep everything that locke brought into the merger. We now have complete control over his empire, along with newman enterprises. I mean, we almost doubled our value for a mere $500 million. That’s a bargain.

Victor: [ Chuckles ] Interesting how things work out sometimes, isn’t it?

Victoria: All you want is me.

[ Scoffs ] Oh, wow, you — you are relentless. And you do not lack commitment, I’ll give you that. Commitment to the scam, not to me, obviously. But you have — you’ve played the dutiful, devoted husband all the way to the bitter end.

Ashland: I’m not playing at anything. It’s what I believe. You have to know that.

Victoria: I don’T. Why don’t you just admit it — admit what you did?

Ashland: I have.

Victoria: No. No, you haven’T. The whole thing. I want to know how you used me. I-I want to know how you could sink to such a disgusting low, lying about a disease that — that ruins so many people’s lives.

Ashland: You want the whole story, you want the truth?

Victoria: Yeah, I do. I do.

[ Laughs ] I think I deserve that.

Ashland: Fine. Here it is. I lied about having cancer.

Victoria: Finally. Finally some honesty. There’s a start.

Ashland: But that’s not the whole truth, victoria. The whole truth is not what you think it is. I didn’t come here with my sights set on newman enterprises. But then this thing happened. I found out my wife was cheating on me and that my son harrison was not my biological son, and in that moment, everything changed for me.

Victoria: You would use your child as an excuse?

Victoria: I was devastated. I was furious. The — the infamous locke ness monster kicked in the gut. But I saw an opportunity.

[ Chuckles ] Something bigger than I’d ever done before. And I channeled all of that righteous anger into going after your family’s company.

Victoria: Well, you didn’t waste any time, did you? You asked me to new york to have dinner with you after you learned about harrison.

Ashland: That’s right.

Victoria: And while we were there, you told me about your cancer diagnosis.

Ashland: I had momentum. I was moving forward.

[ Chuckles ] And it was so, so easy to sell the story that the scans after my heart attack showed signs of cancer.

Victoria: You know…I was surprised that you wanted me around when you were dealing with that news. I mean, we were — we were basically strangers, and now i know why. I know why. Because you knew that it would create an instant bond and that we would have trust and intimacy, and, of course, you would induce compassion out of me. Yeah, it was all very deliberate.

Ashland: That’s right.

Victoria: You know it’s one thing for you to do something like this to me, but how could you let that sweet, little, innocent boy think that you were dying? What defense do you have of that behavior?

Ashland: None. But I did what I could to keep harrison out of it.

Victoria: And that’s why you didn’t fight kyle in taking him to italy.

Ashland: That’s right.

Victoria: Because you could continue your scam and you could get all of your business arrangements in place, and then you would make the announcement that you had miraculously recovered. And you wouldn’t have to look that little boy in the eye and lie to him the way you did to me.

Ashland: I don’t deny any of it. I took advantage of you, of your immense heart. I worked an angle to win your love and your trust.

Victoria: You convinced me and everybody else that you were dying. Death — that was your angle?

Ashland: It was.

Victoria: All of it was to get your hands on my family’s company. And the merger — I mean, the merger was like your ultimate power grab. It was also the most selfish and disgusting move of your entire career.

Ashland: All of that is true. In fact, there was a time that i was even proud of myself. Can you believe that? But then this other thing happened. Something extraordinary. Something shocking. I, honest to god, fell in love with you. I’m steve, I lost 138 pounds in nine months on golo

Chelsea: Now, you behave. Thank you so much, sharon.

Sharon: Hope this will be enough.

Chelsea: I don’t mean just for the snacks. I mean for lending us rey for the evening. It really means a lot to connor.

Sharon: Yeah, I know it does. And I think staying in chicago tonight after the game makes sense.

Chelsea: Yeah, I mean, it’s just so late for connor, you know? The game doesn’t end till after his bedtime.

Sharon: Yeah. And it can get pretty foggy this time of year. It might not be that safe driving home so late. I just want you to bring rey home safe and sound.

Chelsea: We will do that.

Sharon: Um…you know what? Besides, I-I’m gonna have the house to myself tonight, and i can sit on the couch and watch my shows — the ones that rey always pretends to like, for my sake.

Chelsea: Yeah, sounds like a perfect evening.

Rey: So what are you most excited about seeing live?

Connor: A slap shot, ’cause I’m working on mine. It’s a really complicated move.

[ Grunts ]

Rey: Oh, give me some. Yes, sir.

Sharon: So any special requests for the road?

Chelsea: No. Plus, it looks like you put one of everything in here, so thank you. It’s very generous.

Sharon: It’s my pleasure.

Chelsea: Is it?

Sharon: What do you mean?

Chelsea: I just mean you’re going above and beyond to help prepare us for this trip to chicago.

Sharon: Is that a problem?

Chelsea: I don’t know. I get the sense that you’re not happy about this trip. But you’re working hard to come off like you are okay with it, so I just want to know, truly, are you okay with everything that’s happening tonight?

Nick: I keep calling victoria. There’s no answer.

Nikki: Well, I left her at the office a little while ago while ashland was talking to victor and adam. Did everything go as planned?

Victor: Ashland locke accepted the offer to leave. And he signed away control of both companies.

And he annulled his marriage to our daughter.

Nikki: Oh, thank god.

Nick: Wow.

Nikki: Well, I guess adam’s plan worked.

Nick: Good job, adam.

Nikki: I admit, I was a little skeptical, but you really came through.

Adam: Thank you. It’s all about helping the family.

Nick: Does victoria know yet?

Victor: Yeah, I told her as soon as locke left the office.

Nick: How did she react?

Victor: She didn’T. I have a feeling that she’s in the office right now, and I feel that ashland locke is with her.

Nick: Wonder how that conversation is going.

Victor: Yeah.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] I hope it’s nothing more than “goodbye and good riddance.” Victoria did tell me that she intended to walk away from him, but in order to get her to agree to this deal, she had to make him think that they would still be together in spite of the annulment.

Nick: And now he knows that is not the case.

Nikki: I hope so. I have no idea how he’s gonna react or the toll that it will take on victoria. He is just such a terrible person. But her feelings for him were real. She’s still reconciling the relationship she thought they had with the reality.

Nick: Vick’s a very strong, very proud woman. I know she can handle herself. It’s ashland I’m worried about.

Victoria: You “honest to god” fell in love with me. You know, I would be shocked if you even understood what any of those words even mean.

Ashland: I do. And I know they’re true.

Victoria: Those are empty words coming from a man who doesn’t have faith in anyone or anything but himself.

Ashland: I believe that we can get past this, victoria. I still believe that. I have never loved anyone as profoundly as I love you. Without you, if I walk out that door, I will be a lost man, without direction. No idea where to go. For the first time in my life, i don’t know what to do next.

Rey: What do you think — am I too old to learn how to play hockey?

Connor: Of course not.

Rey: Cool, so maybe after our trip, you can take me down to the rink, show me some things?

Connor: That would be cool.

Sharon: Of course I’m okay with rey going to chicago with you and connor. Why wouldn’t I be? And he told me how it happened. You had a business trip out of town, so you asked rey to take connor to the game, and then your trip got postponed, but you managed to get another ticket and you still wanted rey to come.

Chelsea: Well, connor had his heart set on it.

Sharon: I think it’ll be good for rey. He really likes how connor looks up to him.

Chelsea: I didn’t think that you had an issue with rey taking connor to the game. I thought maybe you would have an issue with rey spending time with me, given our history.

Sharon: Do you mean the history between you and me or history between you and rey, given that you once poisoned him?

Chelsea: All of it. I just want you to be comfortable, sharon.

Sharon: Well, I think I’ve made it very clear that my position is this is all behind us, in the past. And I know that you’re doing a lot better — much better than you have been doing in a very long time.

Chelsea: I am. I am, and I would never do anything to undermine that. You and rey have been so kind to me since I came back to town. You’ve offered me friendship again, which is shocking ’cause I really don’t deserve it. I won’t forget it.

Sharon: I’m sure you won’T.

Chelsea: That’s why I just want to live my best life from here on out. It’s also why I’m being up front with you. I hope you’ll be the same with me.

Victor: Why would you say you’re worried about locke?

Nick: We have to watch ashland until we are certain he’s gone for good.

Victor: Well, I told them to watch him all the time. Okay? I asked them to stop watching victoria and follow ashland locke. If that man makes one wrong step, I’m gonna get him.

Victoria: I have no sympathy for you. I have — I have none left to give. You had every opportunity to come to me before tonight, but all I got from you was lie upon lie. And the only reason you came clean is because you were backed into a corner. You got caught. That’s not love.

Ashland: I know it looks that way from your point of view, victoria, but —

Victoria: And then you told me that there was nothing left to hide, but there was — there always was more. And what is so demoralizing is that I knew it. I saw who you were because you showed me who you were over and over again. Taking your — your dead best friend’s identity so that you could start a new life, and then forging a letter so that you could get your hands on your mentor’s fortune. And I believed all of your excuses. I believed them, and I looked past them. I looked past all of your former sins because I wanted to believe that you had changed.

Ashland: I have —

Victoria: I wanted to believe that that was because of me.

Ashland: I have changed. I gave up my life’s work — locke communications group — i did that to show you I would do anything for you.

Victoria: Why would I believe anything that comes out of your mouth? Why? It’s over! And when you walk out of those doors, I don’t care what happens to you.

Ashland: I don’t believe you.

Sharon: I think transparency is a great idea. Honestly, I’m really glad that we get along these days. It’s a relief. Don’t you think?

Chelsea: It is.

Sharon: Alright, so let’s not go looking for problems where there are none.

Chelsea: I’m really glad you feel that way, because you have nothing to worry about.

Connor: Mom, we should go soon.

Chelsea: I think you’re right. We should.

Rey: I hope I get to catch a puck.

Chelsea: I just hope you don’t catch it with your teeth.

Rey: Oh, well, that would make for a fun night, huh?

[ Laughter ]

Ashland: I deserve your scorn, your outrage, your hatred. All of that is justified, but i think deep down inside you are as conflicted as I am. There is still something between us, victoria. Let’s get out of here. Leave your family, leave this town, and start over.

Victoria: I am starting over. But not with you.

Ashland: Okay. The only thing left to say is… I’m sorry.

Nick: Any word from the security detail?

Victor: It seems that locke is leaving the building alone. Hopefully our daughter’s done with him once and for all.

Victoria: [ Screams ]

[ Grunts ]

[ Panting ] Are you one of the millions of americans

Nikki: Oh, my god.

[ Gasps ]

Nick: What happened here?

Nikki: I thought you said ashland left peacefully.

Victor: They assured me he did.

Nikki: [ Sighs ]

Victor: I bet you…victoria did this.

Adam: I can’t say I blame her for needing to blow off some steam, but seems like the work of someone who’s in a lot of pain.

Nick: I’m gonna call security. Yeah, this is nick newman. When’s the last time anyone saw my sister in the building? Was she alone? Alright, thanks. Security saw victoria leaving the parking garage five minutes ago. No sign of ashland.

Nikki: I’m calling her.

Victor: Please, sweetheart, just give her some time alone, okay? Why don’t we — I don’t know, let’s just get out of here.

Nick: Yeah, why don’t we grab something to eat?

Adam: Uh, I appreciate the invitation, but actually I have some things that I need to take care of, so let me know if there’s anything else that I can help with.

Victor: Okay, we’ll do that.

Nikki: What could have made her do this?

Victor: [ Sighs ]

Nick: Alright, let’s, uh — let’s go with society, okay? I got to make a quick stop, but I’ll meet you there. Mom? Dad?

Victor: I’m sorry, son, I’m checking with security right now. We’ll be seeing you at the restaurant, okay?

Nick: Mom, I know you’re worried, alright? But I think dad’s right — vick just needs some space, alright? Let’s give her some time alone and respect her choice.

Nikki: I just want to help her get through this as best i can.

Victor: [ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ] This is so upsetting. We all will, my darling, when the time is right.

Adam: Sally. I have great news. My plan worked. That’s right. Locke is on his way out of town right now, all thanks to me. Yeah, my father is very happy. He’s very appreciative. No, I don’t know, I didn’t want to push the “can I keep the job” angle. It just didn’t seem like the appropriate time. But, you know, when the dust settles, I will broach the subject with him. I agree. I think ashland’s departure is cause for celebration. Uh, well, let’s meet somewhere. That works for me. I, uh — I will be there.

Rey: Alright, we’re going now.

Sharon: Great, I have two coffees for the road — one for you, one for chelsea.

Rey: Wow, you’re the best.

Sharon: Well, if I’m not the best, I’m pretty high up there.

Rey: You definitely are.

Sharon: Would you please call or text when you get to chicago? I just want to know that you’re safe.

Rey: I will, I will, but don’t you worry — I got connor to protect me.

Sharon: Right.

Rey: [ Chuckles ]

Sharon: Wait.

Rey: You remember that when i get back.

Sharon: I will. I love you.

Rey: I love you. Alright, let’s hit the road.

Connor: Yeah!

Rey: Okay, I got coffee, snacks, my phone, keys, tickets.

Chelsea: Yeah, I have my ticket right here. You have the ones for you and connor?

Rey: For sure. Where are they?

Nick: Hey, I’m glad you’re here.

Nick: Well, it turns out you were right.

Nick: Victoria absolutely does not want me intervening with ashland, and she told me that when I went to see her.

Sharon: Were you at least able to be supportive like i suggested?

Nick: I tried my very best. The good news is ashland has decided to accept adam’s deal, so we’re not gonna have to deal with him for very much longer.

Sharon: Well, that’s good news for victoria and for the newmans in general.

Nick: It’s a giant relief. You know, I got to hand it to adam. He really stepped up for the family. My concern is he’s not just gonna accept a thank-you card for his efforts.

Sharon: What do you mean?

Nick: I think it’s gonna be very difficult to get him out of the ceo seat, so we may have gotten rid of one mess, but there’s another one right around the corner.

Sharon: Well, I hope not.

Nick: You alright?

Sharon: Yeah, just, uh, been a long day.

Adam: Sally? Sally? “Get comfortable and enjoy. Drink to your success. I’ll be back soon.” To a new beginning.

Victoria: Call mom, mobile.

[ Cellphone vibrates ]

Nikki: [ Gasps ] Victoria, where are you?

Victoria: I’m driving.

Nikki: Well, I’m so happy to hear from you. Your father and I are at society. Can you come join us?

Victoria: That sounds lovely, mom, but I need to do some thinking.

Nikki: Okay. I understand.

Victoria: I just wanted to call you and let you know that I’m okay.

Nikki: Well, I’m so glad you did. And don’t worry, everything will work out.

Victoria: Will it, really?

Nikki: Yes, of course it will.

Victoria: Because I really don’t think that anything is gonna be okay ever again. I loved him. I did, and he made a fool out of me. And I kept going back to him. I almost left with him tonight.

Nikki: Victoria, where are you? I will come get you.

Victoria: What is wrong with me? How could I let this happen? I loved him.

Nikki: Listen to me. I want you to pull over right now. Your father and I will come find you. And everything’s gonna be fine.

Victoria: No, everything is not gonna be fine. I keep making the same mistakes with men. [ Screams ]

Adam: If they won’t budge on the price, then walk away. Right, right, right. Well, get on it.

Victor: Where do things stand with locke?

Adam: [ Exhales sharply ] Our conversation couldn’t have gone better. He agreed to surrender control of the company.

Victor: I’ll be damned. Hmm. What about victoria?

Adam: He agreed to the annulment and that he’s gonna walk away from newman/locke. He is actually on his way over here right now to sign the agreement.

Victor: Well, so the end is in sight.

Adam: Uh-huh. Money talks. Locke will soon be out of our lives, out of the company and victoria’s life, so it’s the best possible outcome.

Victor: I still don’t like the way you handled this whole thing. It was very impulsive. Could have backfired.

Adam: It worked, didn’t it? I achieved the objective.

Victor: You will have achieved the objective once he signs.

Adam: It was the cleanest, most straight-forward way to tackle the problem. No tricks, no games — it was just cold, hard cash in exchange to get this jerk to take a hike.

Victor: Hmm. So you want me to believe that you did this for the good of the family, just to show your loyalty, right?

Adam: That’s exactly why i did it.

Victor: I know why you did it. You wanted to prove that you were smarter and more capable than your sister.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] You’re really doing this?

Ashland: Adam is waiting for me in his office right now to sign the paperwork.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] It’s just — you know, it’s a little overwhelming how quickly it all went down.

Ashland: Yeah. Well, adam and your father gave me 500 million reasons to walk away. From our combined company, from our “official” marriage. As long as I have your assurance that you’re on board with me.

Victoria: Ashland, I told you —

Ashland: Tell me again. I need to know if you’re really willing and ready to walk away from everything you have here, from your family, from this company, from your home here in genoa city. And build a new future with me someplace far away.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] The farther away, the better, as far as I’m concerned. After everything that has happened, you know, I could just — I could really use a fresh start.

Ashland: Well, that brings me to the hardest question of all. What about your children?

Jack: That is wonderful news. No, absolutely. If anything changes, you give me a call. I love you too, son. Bye. That was kyle. Summer can’t get away from marchetti, but kyle managed to clear his schedule and he and harrison will be flying in next week.

Traci: So the clock is ticking.

Jack: Yeah, as excited as i am about their visit, I am also dreading what comes with it.

Traci: [ Sighs ] Diane and all of her endless drama.

Jack: I get to sit with my son and blind-side him with the news that his mother is alive.

[ Knock on door ]

Phyllis: Please don’t make me play this game with you, “taylor.” Let me in. I have a master key. Please don’t make me use it.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: Stop. Seriously? You didn’t think I was gonna figure out your alias when you checked in to my hotel? Hi, I’m karen.

Ashland: It’s because I love you so much that I’m asking you this question now. If you’re really ready to cut ties with everyone…I don’t want you to have any regrets. We both have to be sure about what that means. For instance, I would love to take a more active role in harrison’s life, but I know the newmans and the abbotts would join forces to keep me from doing that in the same way you need to think about billy.

Victoria: You know, I have been thinking about the impact that this would have on the children, and I actually think that I can — I can — I can reason with billy. I mean [Sighs] He’s not going to keep johnny and katie away from their mother.

Ashland: Are you sure about that?

Victoria: When it comes to determining what is best for the kids, I know that billy usually does the right thing. And depending on where we end up living, we’ll just have to come up with some kind of an arrangement.

Ashland: I’m not sure that’s going to be possible.

Victoria: Why would you say it like that?

Ashland: Because your ex can be vindictive. He’s proved it over and over again.

Victoria: Oh. I know, but…billy is a totally different person now. As ironic as that sounds, as much as he’ll hate to see me doing this with you, I think he’ll take great satisfaction in me finally walking away from my father. He despises him more than anyone, even adam. You’re not even a close third when it comes to the two.

Ashland: Are you really willing to take that risk?

Traci: Jack, I am so sorry you’ve been put in this position.

Jack: Oh, thanks. So am I.

Traci: But you’re doing the right thing. Kyle has to know the truth, and better it come from you where you can at least sort of prepare him. Although, god, how do you prepare a kid to learn that his mother skipped town to save her own skin and let him and everybody else believe she was dead?

Jack: Yeah, I don’t think we can count on diane to show much finesse. She’s been so callous about kyle’s emotions ever since her “death.”

Traci: Okay, I’ve been thinking a lot about the timing on this, jack. Why reveal herself now?

Jack: Oh, there is a reason, rest assured. Diane has a plan. And I am going to make it my life’s mission to figure out exactly what it is.

Diane: Your hotel? My, my, how things do change.

Phyllis: Stop the act. You know this is my hotel. You know that. That’s why you made a beeline for it when you landed.

Diane: You’re right. I won’t insult your intelligence that way. What I mean is it would be a pointless lie since I know very well what you’ve been up to since I’ve been away.

Phyllis: Oh, do you?

Diane: Mm-hmm.

Diane: I’ve followed the lives of a lot of people in genoa city, not just jack and kyle.

Phyllis: Do you have any idea the hell that’s gonna rain down on you if anyone knows you’re here, diane?

Diane: [ Sighs ] I just — I just wanted to be here, prepared, for once jack tells kyle that I’m alive.

Phyllis: Prepare for what? What are you preparing for?

[ Chuckles ] Honestly, how do you see this playing out? For copd,

Diane: I’ve played it out in my head so many times, you know, seeing kyle again, being reunited with my son.

Phyllis: Okay, well, don’t bet on that happening, and don’t get too comfortable here if you know what’s good for you.

Diane: Is that a threat?

Phyllis: No, just advice. Listen, jack’s hoping — I’m betting — that when kyle finds out that you’re actually not dead, he’s not gonna want to have anything to do with you.

Diane: Gee, thanks.

Phyllis: I think you wasted a trip, diane. Sorry. But on the off chance kyle wants to meet with you, I’m gonna have to ask you not to do that in my hotel. I don’t want the fireworks here. Can you just check in to the athletic club, please?

Diane: [ Chuckles ] Are you throwing me out?

Phyllis: Nothing I would like to do more than to throw you out, that’s for sure.

Diane: Oh, then what’s stopping you?

Phyllis: You know what’s stopping me? If I throw you out, then you get to play the victim, and I’m not gonna let you do that this time. You know what I’m gonna do instead? I’m gonna take your money and I’m gonna ignore you, diane.

Diane: [ Scoffs ] Wow. Wow, you really have a knack for this hospitality thing. No — no, really, phyllis, it’s a gift.

Phyllis: If you create any trouble, I’m throwing you out on your butt.

Diane: Fair enough. But you don’t need to worry. I’ll behave.

Phyllis: I hope so.

Diane: Phyllis [Scoffs] I know it’s going to be very hard for you to accept that I’ve changed.

Phyllis: Oh, please, diane. I know you. You haven’t changed. I’m gonna give you a piece of advice. If people in this town that you’re actually alive and that you had the audacity to come back here, it’s not me you should be worried about. Things will get ugly in a real hurry.

Adam: I’m sorry that you think that of me. That I was purely acting out of selfishness.

Victor: Son, you said in so many words that you thought this was victoria’s fault. That she fell for a con man, therefore she should be stripped of her title. In favor of you.

Adam: Do I think that I’m a better leader than victoria? Hell yes. Because it happens to be true. But the approach that I took with ashland, it wasn’t about proving it to you or to anyone else.

Victor: So you weren’t out to impress me.

Adam: Well, to the extent that you were impressed, that pleases me. Yeah, I won’t deny it. I solved a problem that threatened everything that you have built your entire life. But the goal was to get ashland out, and it benefited the whole family. So whatever happens moving forward, I think we’re all better off for it, myself included. I’d say that’s a win all around.

Victor: I remember when you were a little boy on the farm in kansas. I taught you how to play soccer. Look at you now. You do impress me. But you’ve cost me a hell of a lot of money.

Adam: Well, it’s money, um, well spent. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Let’s finalize this. Until we get ashland’s signature on the agreement, um, I don’t want anything to get messed up, since we’re this close to getting rid of that bastard.

Victor: I’m proud of you.

Victoria: Since the moment we got together, billy has been meddling in our lives. He’s been digging into your past, almost to the point of obsession, and bringing gaines to tuscany to stop our wedding.

Ashland: But see, that’s exactly why I think he’s gonna be so hard on you. He will see the two of us choosing to run away together as proof that he was right to oppose our marriage.

Victoria: I actually think that it will be the opposite. Look, you said that you thought billy was still in love with me secretly and that that was his motivation, but you’re so wrong about that. Billy just doesn’t want to see me hurt again the way that he hurt me, and he wants to see me with some peace in my life. The kind of peace that he was never able to give me. Diane: [ Huffs ] For the record, it’s incredibly difficult for me being back here.

Phyllis: Oh, come on, diane, please. When have you cared about what anyone thinks of you? I am actually interested in one thing.

Diane: What?

Phyllis: How’d you survive after all these years? I mean, you took on an alias and invested in therapy apparently. But how’d you pay your bills?

Diane: Well, uh, once I felt steady enough to venture out again, that I was confident my escape plan had worked, that nobody was going to come looking for me…

Jack: I have been doing some investigating into “taylor jenson’s” life in los angeles over the past few years, trying to come up with clues, something that’s gonna lead me to what diane is after.

Traci: And what did you find?

Jack: For starters, she tried to resume her career…

Diane: As an architect. But it was more competitive and difficult in los angeles. I couldn’t draw on the success of diane jenkins.

Phyllis: That’s one of the downfalls of faking your own death.

Diane: Well, my savings started to dwindle, and I was forced to take whatever job i could find. I — I started working in a real-estate office and answered phones, and pretty soon i learned the ropes and I got my realtor’s license.

Phyllis: It’s hard to picture you hustling, like the rest of us mortals. Even if it was in beverly hills.

Diane: It wasn’t as glamorous as one might think.

Phyllis: Oh, was it not?

Diane: No, I didn’t sell mansions to celebrities. It was small, postwar valley homes.

Jack: Taylor jenson had a modestly successful career as a residential real-estate agent. Hardly the life that diane was accustomed to.

Traci: Well, I suppose if you’re technically dead, it’s best to keep a low profile.

Jack: Yeah, when you’re keeping an eye on all the dollars, it kind of wears on someone as grasping and entitled as diane. My biggest worry right now is she’s gonna try to convince kyle to support her.

Traci: Well, that wouldn’t surprise me a bit. But either way, it’s gonna be kyle’s decision.

Diane: I kept my head down and made an honest living, and little by little, year by year, I made a life for myself in california.

Phyllis: Planning and plotting for the day when you could come back to genoa city and explode into our life again. Wreaking havoc on jack and everyone around him.

Diane: Phyllis —

Phyllis: I’m calling it like I see it. And then keemo’s house went on the market after he died, and you made a beeline for it because you found out that the owner was jack’s granddaughter allie, and you took advantage of a young woman grieving the loss of her father and you misrepresented yourself as a lovely woman…just there to hold her hand, right? Capitalizing on her grief and confusion.

Diane: Just stop. That is not how it happened. You’re just twisting everything around.

Phyllis: Am I? Am I really? See, I know who you are, and i don’t trust a word that comes out of your mouth, diane. And nothing you say or do is ever gonna change that.

Traci: So I guess we just focus on the positive — kyle will be coming to genoa city to spend some time, and he’s bringing that adorable harrison. I’m sure you’re excited about that, right?

Jack: Yes, I am, and I am hoping to convince allie to come out while they’re here. It seems like the perfect opportunity to meet her whole new family.

Traci: Jack, are you sure that’s a good idea?

Victor: Hello, ashland.

Adam: We’ve been expecting you.

Ashland: Hmm. Well, I don’t want to spend any more time here with you than I’m sure you want to spend with me, so let’s get to it, yes.

Adam: [ Clears throat ] Here’s the document. Pretty straightforward. You sign on page three. Which states for $500 million us, you agree to relinquish all ownership and control of newman/locke as well as agree to an annulment of your marriage to victoria.

Ashland: As if I never existed. But then that is the goal, isn’t it? To erase me from newman/locke and from victoria’s life.

Victor: Once you sign, we’ll transfer the funds.

Ashland: Hmm. Two unreadable faces. Well done, gentlemen. But I know that inside both of you must be salivating right now. Scarcely able to believe that i would make it this easy for you. Better skin from your body wash?

Jack: Why wouldn’t I want to invite allie here while kyle and harrison are visiting from milan? That never happens. She gets to meet you, ashley, billy.

Traci: Naturally, you want your granddaughter to meet her new family as soon as possible. I’m your biggest supporter. I support that wholeheartedly, jack.

Jack: Yeah, you lobbied for it the last time we talked.

Traci: But that was before i knew about diane. And do you really think that you can welcome her —

Jack: Allie has met diane, and she has been appropriately warned.

Traci: But that doesn’t mean it’s gonna go smoothly. Or that the explosion is gonna be short-lived. Ah. If the goal is to ease allie into the meeting her new family for the first time, do you really think that it’s such a good idea to bring her into such a volatile mix?

Jack: You’re right. You’re right. Telling kyle the news about diane is enough.

[ Doorbell rings ] I’ll get it. Hey.

Phyllis: Sorry I didn’t call first.

Jack: That’s okay. What’s wrong?

Phyllis: You want the bad news or the worse news?

Jack: Um, whatever the news is, tell me.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] Diane is here in genoa city. Staying at my hotel.

Adam: I’m sure you’ll find everything in order. The agreement exactly as we discussed. As my father, we are prepared to do our part immediately after you sign.

Victor: $500 million to the account you specified.

Ashland: Okay.

[ Clears throat ] Initial page one. Sign page three.

Victor: Alright, it’s done. The money has been transferred. You’re out of our lives.

Ashland: Don’t assume you’re speaking for your entire family, victor. Your daughter —

Victor: Spare me.

Nikki: Is it a bad time?

Victoria: No.

[ Sighs ] I mean, yes, but…I’m glad you’re here. Maybe you can help calm me down.

Nikki: I hear that ashland has agreed to adam’s plan to pay him off.

Victoria: From dad, I assume.

Nikki: Is it true?

Victoria: Yes. But he has one condition.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] What is the condition?

Victoria: Once ashland signs away control of the company and gets the money, he wants me to break all ties with the family and go away with him.

Nikki: What?!

Victoria: He’ll agree to the annulment, mother, if — if i stay with him.

Nikki: Well, you didn’t agree to that, did you?

Victoria: Well, of course i did. What other way was I going to get him out of newman and out of our family’s lives? It’s what you all wanted, wasn’t it?

Nikki: What do you want? That was just a ploy on your part, right?

Victoria: Right now ashland is signing away his entire life. Everything that he’s built, everything that…that we’ve built.

Nikki: Honey, you don’t owe him anything. Not after all of his lies and the way he used you. There is nothing binding you to that agreement. It was just words. Unless… please don’t tell me you want to stay with him.

Jack: This is just the kind of stunt diane would pull — showing up incognito so that when kyle arrives, she can pounce on him for god knows what reason.

Phyllis: Well, whatever the reason is, we are not gonna like it.

Jack: How did she seem?

Phyllis: I don’t know. She went on and on about how she was trying to rebuild her life in the last 10 years, and she wants to mend fences with her son.

Jack: Yeah, sticking to her story like the skilled liar she is.

Phyllis: You know, I said a couple things to her, started baiting her, see if she would lash out at me. She didn’t go there.

Jack: So you believed her?

Phyllis: Well, she was convincing. She puts on one of the best sincere acts I’ve ever seen.

Jack: Wait, then you’re buying it.

Phyllis: No. Not for a minute.

Jack: I don’t like that she’s even close. I heard from kyle that he and harrison are coming in soon.

Phyllis: Yeah, summer called me on my way over here.

Jack: So how do I keep diane away from kyle before I can talk to him?

Phyllis: You don’t have to worry about that. I’ll do that for you. That’s what I’m for. I mean, you have enough on your plate, telling kyle the truth and how he’s gonna react when he finds out that his mother’s still alive.

Jack: I want you to know i appreciate you dropping everything and trying to help me through all this. I mean it, you have consistently been there for me.

Phyllis: I’m happy to do it. I really am. Just so you know, I’m also protecting my daughter, ’cause whatever happens to kyle affects her. So not only am I in “best friend” mode, but I’m in “mama bear” mode. And make no mistake, this is personal for me.

Diane: [ Sighs ] Hmm. “The business world is speculating about recent moves at newman/locke, where chairman emeritus victor newman has abruptly installed his son, adam newman, as temporary ceo.”

[ Chuckles ] Victor’s at it again. Pulling strings, keeping everyone guessing. “Adam newman seen at society with his recently-appointed coo, sally spectra, appearing to mix pleasure with business. Future power couple in the making?”

[ Chuckles ] “Nikki newman to chair arts foundation gala for 10th consecutive year. Her organizational talent par excellence, tireless dedication to worthy causes –” blah, blah, blah, blah. “Mrs. Newman is a bright light in our community, and a powerful voice. A force to be reckoned with.”

[ Sighs ]

Nikki: I’ve been so worried about you, being under all this pressure. And I-I know your feelings for ashland are still strong. Despite everything he’s done, he still has a hold on your heart.

Victoria: Mom, I know. I know I shouldn’t be so confused and conflicted. But [Sighs] God help me, I am. And you’re right, this has been really, really hard. All of the pretending and lying to his face and the hate that I feel for him for what he’s done to me and the family. While at the same time…I feel like I’m grieving the loss of — of my marriage and — and the man that I thought was my soulmate.

Nikki: Well…you must have put on the performance of a lifetime to get him to agree to this deal.

Victoria: Do you know why i was able to pull it off, mom? Because…those feelings are still there for me to draw from. And even though I’ve slowly been putting the screws to him… I just have reconciled it at all in my heart or in my mind. After everything that ashland and I have been through and everything that we’ve shared, I mean, ashland’s love for me, it just — it seemed so powerful and real. I mean, could it have all been fake this whole time?

Nikki: Yes, because he is a sociopath. He knows all the right words to say, put on the perfect act, while feeling nothing except for some sick satisfaction that he was able to dupe us. Darling, don’t be ashamed that you thought it was genuine. We all did. This isn’t your fault. Do you understand, baby? It’s not your fault.

Victoria: I know that, mom. I’m not blaming myself. I just don’t know what to do with all of this love that i have in my heart.

[ Voice breaking ] Where does it go?

[ Sobbing ]

Nikki: In time, it will fade. And then you will heal. And you have your entire family to help you, baby, don’t worry. I know.

Victor: You wanted to be treated as an equal — a man worthy of having his name side-by-side with mine. But you couldn’t do it through grit and hard work. You did it by taking advantage of my daughter’s feelings and by taking advantage of this family’s generosity, by claiming to be terminally ill. That, my man, is sick.

Ashland: You may find this hard to believe, victor [Sighs] But I still admire the hell out of you. I really do. Your devotion to your family. Your commitment to your empire. You’re a shining example for all of us.

Adam: Look, now that everything’s finalized, you should — you should leave.

Ashland: One more thing. My love for your daughter has not changed, even in this moment. She is a remarkable woman, an independent woman, and no matter what, you should be proud of her.

Victor: Get him the hell out of here.

Adam: [ Sighs ] We hit the bike trails every weekend

Diane: [ Sighs ] Was coming here a mistake? Can I really pull this off? If I — if I reconnect with kyle and it goes well, then what? Ugh! Why didn’t I think this through before I left la?

[ Knock on door ]

[ Sighs ] Damn it, phyllis. Now what? Why can’t you just leave me alone?

Jack: What the hell do you think you’re doing?

Adam: I’m glad you got that off your chest. Told him what we all think about him. But let’s not waste any more brain space on ashland locke, okay? It’s over. We won.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

Ashland: Alright, I just met with victor and adam. It’s done. I see no reason to stay here one minute longer. You ready to go?

Victoria: Did you really think that I would run away with you after everything you put me through? Did you really believe this wasn’t the absolute end for us?

Ashland: I know it sounds mad. Just hear me out. We can start over. Like we talked about. And thanks to adam, ironically, we will have all the capital we need to start our next venture.

Victoria: You don’t understand —

Ashland: I do understand. Think about the life we could have. No suspicions. No judgment. No family rivalries. Just the two of us…and this crazy, perfect love that we have found together. You want that…every bit as much as I do. Don’t you?

Adam: Well, you made the right choice, locke, by accepting my offer. And just in time — the deadline was almost up.

Ashland: You have a bad habit of getting ahead of yourself. I have some terms and conditions.

Adam: Well, you’re not in a place to negotiate. When I said you were making the right choice, I meant the only choice that is available to you. And after what you’ve done, you need to accept this deal or you need to suffer the consequences.

Ashland: And what consequences would those be?

Adam: My family will destroy you and your reputation in a way that you can’t come back from. So I will be the one presenting the terms.

Mariah: So we have one goal for today, one singular mission, and that is to find inspiration for our wedding outfits.

Tessa: Well, when I called her, our fabulous designer chelsea, she gave me a list of thrift stores that we could go to and check out. She told me that we should try on, like, a bunch of different things so that we can bring some examples of things that we like — different colors, fabrics, styles.

Mariah: Colors? I mean, what are we thinking?

Tessa: I don’t know, white?Ou thinking?

Mariah: Yeah. I mean, we should have a few nods to tradition, right?

Tessa: Matching white jumpsuits?

Mariah: Well, I think that matching couples’ outfits are more of a halloween tradition, less of a wedding tradition.

Tessa: Alright, wise guy. But we’re still doing ’70s glam?

Mariah: You are correct.

Tessa: So keep an open mind.

Mariah: Oh, I’m open to anything and everything, so let’s go find our dream outfits.

Lily: Yeah.

Lily: Uh, I don’t know, um, stalking, entrapment. Should I go on?

Billy: [ Sighs ] Just talk. Say it. Say anything. Can’t be that hard. Just say what’s on your mind. Of course, you can’t say that. Probably can’t say that either.

[ Sighs ] Or maybe you should talk about that.

Nick: Hey, billy. What’s up?

Billy: Hey, listen, I can’t stop thinking about victoria and worrying whether she’s gonna let ashland get through to her with all his manipulations again. So I’m thinking I need to talk to her one last time and try to get her to see the light. What do you think?

Nick: No, don’t do that, alright? Stay out of it. It’s complicated enough.

Billy: Why do you say that?

Nick: Just let the family handle it, okay? We’re working on a way to get ashland out of our lives.

Nick: I promise you, I will fill you in at some point, but trust me when I say this — I have no intention of letting ashland get away with what he’s done to my sister.

Lily: Look, I know that victoria is in a terrible position and that it’s stirring up these protective feelings in you again. Ashland: I wanted to commemorate the merging of our companies and give you something special for our wedding. To me…that portrait represents a new beginning for both of us.

[ Knock on door ]

Nick: Can we talk?

Victoria: Now what?

Nick: I heard from mom. She said that adam went to ashland, offered him a whole lot of money to walk away from newman/locke. Is that true? Is ashland considering taking that deal?

Ashland: Okay. Let’s get down to brass tacks, then. What exactly do you and victor expect in return for this “generous” offer?

Adam: It’s clear and simple. You sign a legal agreement relinquishing all control of newman/locke. And you agree to an annulment of your marriage with victoria.

Ashland: An annulment, not a divorce?

Adam: Well, a divorce applies to a valid marriage. Given the way that you fraudulently worked your way into her life, your union was never legally considered a marriage, so it would be annulled. Now, once you’ve signed all the necessary paperwork, we will wire money into an account that you give us.

Ashland: Why would I expect you to make good on that?

Adam: Why wouldn’t I? It’s in my best interests that you get the money you need to disappear.

Ashland: Yeah, well, if that’s the case, then why don’t we do it this way, okay? You wire the money first, and then I sign the agreement. For copd,

Victoria: Half a billion dollars to walk away from the company and from me.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Well, it’s the last part I’m concerned about. I’m sure you’re hurting. I just wanted to check on you.

Victoria: I’m fine. The last thing I need right now is your pity.

Nick: Come on, vick. It’s not pity. I’m worried about you.

Victoria: Do you know what’s really upsetting to me? Is that my family continues to doubt me and to intervene after I specifically told you all that I — I could handle this. I have been working really hard to convince ashland to set up adam, and then adam goes and he makes ashland an offer? He couldn’t bring himself to be a part of a plan that was mine — he had to make an end run around me with his own deal. And then he didn’t even bother to tell me about it. I mean, and now I’m playing catch-up, and it just makes everything harder.

Nick: Look, I get it. Adam’s motives are infuriating, but the blame for this whole thing falls on ashland. What he did was reprehensible. And we’re all grasping at straws trying to find a way to get this guy out of our lives, but more importantly, away from you.

Victoria: I had already come up with a solution. I didn’t need your input.

Nick: Who cares whose idea it is? If ashland is actually willing to sit down with adam and talk terms, then maybe adam’s plan is the best one we have.

Victoria: I can’t believe you’re siding with adam on this.

Nick: I’m not. We all want the same thing here, and that is to make locke disappear. And it sounds like offering him some money is the best thing we can do. So what do you think? Is he considering it? Is he wavering? Do I need to get involved in this?

Victoria: I don’t know what he’s gonna do.

Nick: Well, I’m telling you right now, I’m getting sick and tired of everyone treating ashland with kid gloves, trying to lure him in to these carefully laid-out plans. Well, I think all these plans are weak, and I think it’s time I get rid of this guy myself.

Victoria: Don’t you dare.

Adam: Okay, should we synchronize the paperwork and the payment to happen at the same time? 1, 2, 3, go?

Ashland: You can’t blame me for not trusting you.

Adam: I get it. But you are actually the one that has proven to be untrustworthy, okay? My family takes the greater risk by paying you first.

Ashland: We both have a lot at stake here.

Adam: Okay, okay, at this point, I don’t know — or frankly, I don’t care — what your motivations are, but I can tell you what ours are — we want you out. And my father has agreed that $500 million is more than a fair price to pay to achieve that. We have no reason to screw you over. And frankly, we don’t want to deal with whatever revenge plot you would concoct if we did. Because we know what you’re capable of. So all you have to do is take the half-a-billion-dollar leap of faith, you sign the agreement, and we’ll wire the money. It’s non-negotiable.

Lily: If you’ll excuse me.

Sally: I’ve learned that doing things on the up-and-up is the better path — the only path, really, now that I’m the coo of a major company. My behavior reflects on newman media, and I take that responsibility very seriously, so I have every intention of earning your respect and the respect of the other moguls in this town.

Lily: Look, that’s great, honestly. I really hope that’s true. But I think that as long as you’re partnered up with adam, you will find that people have a hard time taking you seriously.

Billy: I don’t think I can put that out there. I can’t say that.

[ Sighs ] Clearly ashland locke is on my mind. Although it did help me figure out why I feel so protective about victoria… I made a promise to not get involved in her personal life. So what now? There’s got to be something else to talk about because there’s so much going on. Starting with jack… and the pain that diane is about to wreak on his life. Let’s go there. People don’t need to have a lot of power to be manipulative. Some people have zero ability to tell the truth, to be honest. All they know is playing games. So how do you deal with someone who lies to you, who deceives you in such a massive, big way that it destroys lives? What do you do when that person weasels their way back into your life…only to do it all over again? Over and over and over again, causing you more pain and hurt. It’s not gonna take a genius to figure out who I’m talking about there. If I’m gonna talk like this, there’s only one solution. It’s my woke-up-like-this migraine medicine.

Lily: Well, I wish you luck with everything.

Sally: What can I do to make amends and wipe the slate clean? Because now that I’m the coo of newman media and you’re running chancellor, we’re going to be running in the same circles.

Lily: Yeah, I’m not so sure about that.

Sally: I heard that you’re going to be merging with hamilton-winters. Huge congrats on that. I’m just saying that who knows what kinds of business dealings we might be able to do in the future, and I would really like us to get along.

Lily: Look, getting along and being friends is something that has to be earned. Takes a level of trust, right? And I hope that you’re a better person than who you were when you first came into town. And I am always willing to give someone a second chance. But people have to show that they actually deserve it.

Sally: Challenge accepted. I do believe that one day we could be friends. And it’s something I would like to work towards.

Lily: Well, I’ll give you one thing, you definitely don’t lack nerve, that’s for sure. Maybe next time work on your subtlety.

Mariah: Oh, my gosh. You okay?

Tessa: Yep.

Mariah: Alright, um…

Mariah: Who do you think bought more?

Tessa: Let’s call it a tie.

Mariah: I call it a win for the both of us. Um…[ Sighs ]

Tessa: Okay, is it time for our fashion show? I cannot wait to see what you picked out.

Mariah: I mean, I really like the stuff I picked out for myself, but I’m kind of more excited at the stuff I picked out for you behind your back when you weren’t looking.

Tessa: [ Gasps ] You got stuff for me?

Mariah: I did. It’s just a few things that i thought you would look fantastic in, so I hope you’re not sick of trying on clothes because you’re gonna have a lot more outfit changes than me.

Tessa: Yeah, I’m not sure that’s true, because I picked out some stuff for you, too.

Mariah: You did? Oh, wow. Okay, um…so let’s dress each other, and then we can see how well we know each other’s style.

Victoria: Ashland is aware of how much my family hates him. But you need to stay out of it, nicholas. It’s just gonna rile you up. It’s not gonna accomplish anything.

Nick: Well, it is driving me nuts sitting around, doing nothing. And it’s not just because of everything ashland has done, but because of my concern for you. This whole situation has gotten completely out of control, and i know it’s taking its toll. I also know that the longer it takes us to get him out of our lives, the harder it is on you.

Victoria: I know, I know. I know you have my best interests at heart, but ashland is not gonna walk away from me and this company just because you confront him. In fact, if you personally attack him, it might have the opposite effect. He might just dig in deeper. And, yes, as furious as I am with adam for going off on his own and making this offer, we’re just gonna have to let it play out.

Nick: It’s very frustrating that you won’t let me help you get through this.

Victoria: It’s not your job to do that. I can get myself through this. Ashland can’t crush me. I’m stronger than you all think I am.

Nick: You think I don’t know that? Vick, you think I don’t know how strong you are? Anyone in the world would be overwhelmed by this. My concern is that ashland has dug himself in so deep with this family that we will never be able to get rid of him. Just the thought of him makes me want to strangle him.

Ashland: [ Exhales sharply ] Great. I see the newman brother are working overtime to protect their sister. When are you going to learn, nick, she does not need your interference? When I get a migraine,

Sally: Got us some tapas.

Adam: [ Sighs ] I can’t even think about eating right now.

Sally: Why? What happened? Did you meet with ashland?

Adam: [ Sighs ] Mm-hmm. He wouldn’t commit to the deal. I laid out our terms — that he had to walk away and annul his marriage to victoria. And he was stone-faced and he was cool under pressure, but i swear I saw something in his eyes when I mentioned annulment. It was like that got under his skin more than the prospect of losing control of newman/locke.

Sally: Huh. Maybe he really does have feelings for victoria.

Adam: I don’t even know how that’s possible, given what he’s done. Besides, the annulment wasn’t even the sticking point. It seemed like he was gonna agree to the deal, and then we just got caught up arguing about the logistics — how is gonna shoot first. Was he gonna agree to it or are we gonna send the money? And then it just became this game of chicken.

Sally: Where’d you leave it?

Adam: He said he needed to find out one last thing before agreeing to it.

Sally: What was the “one last thing”?

Adam: I don’t know. But I bet it has something to do with victoria.

Victoria: I need to speak with ashland alone. Please.

Nick: You know, on top of everything that you have done, you’re tearing apart my sister’s relationship with this family, and you couldn’t care less. Is there not an ounce of decency inside of you?

Ashland: Don’t worry. You won’t have to deal with me much longer.

Nick: I better not.

Victoria: Well, that could’ve been much worse. You defused the situation.

Ashland: Are you okay? Did he upset you?

Victoria: That doesn’t matter. What did you tell adam?

Lily: Hello.

Billy: Hey.

Lily: I’m gonna need wine with my dinner.

Billy: Is that relaxation or aggravation?

Lily: Oh, the latter. Getting takeout should not be so stressful. I ran into sally at society, and apparently she wants to be my new best friend.

Billy: Uh, yeah, that’s, uh —

Lily: Not happening at all.

Billy: Good.

Lily: Anyway, did you finish your latest podcast episode?

Billy: Kind of, yes. Something good came out of it, though. I figured out a way to turn my one podcast into two.

Lily: Wait, I’m sorry, i thought you were having a problem figuring out your next episode. Now you have an idea for two series?

Billy: Well, the first podcast about delia was, you know, all about me from my heart, and that felt amazing, but I also realized that the people that are listening, they know who I’m talking about.

Lily: Yeah, that’s probably true.

Billy: So I took some of your advice, and I started to unpack why I feel so protective about victoria, which led me to talk about the abuse of power, which inevitably led me to ashland locke. Then I started talking about emotional manipulation, which led me to diane and jack.

Lily: You think people are gonna piece it together when they find out that she’s alive?

Billy: Yes, I do. And the whole purpose of this podcast was to feel free to be able to say what was on my mind without feeling that I was going to expose myself or anyone i care about, to speak my mind without consequences.

Lily: So you’re gonna be like that late-night radio guy who gets the town all riled up?

Billy: Hey, maybe. I feel like the only way I can do that is by coming up with a persona, to do a podcast under a pseudonym.

Tessa: Are you ready?

Mariah: I was born ready, babe.

Tessa: Okay, here I come.

Mariah: Wow!

[ Gasps ]

This is the story of two homes.

Ashland: I can’t respond to adam and victor until I get an answer from you.

Victoria: An answer to what?

Ashland: To the question i asked you earlier. You never gave me a response. I don’t know if that was your intention, but I need an answer from you right now. Are you willing to walk away from all of this and start fresh? Because that’s the only way i will agree to their terms.

Victoria: And what are their terms?

Ashland: I cede control of newman/locke — which I’m willing to do, that’s fine — but they’re also insisting that we dissolve our marriage, that we get an annulment that acknowledges our marriage was based on a fraud.

Victoria: And you’re willing to admit that? That our love was nothing but a sham?

Ashland: No. Not our love. If in truth you love me as much as I love you. I’m willing to agree to all of it. Dissolve our marriage, get the annulment, cede control of the company. But my love for you, my feelings for you cannot be signed away and they cannot be bought for any amount of money, so the question remains. Do you love me?

Victoria: Yes, of course i love you. Of course I love you. And, yes, I would be willing to leave all of this behind for you.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] That’s all I needed to hear.

Lily: Wait, so now you think you have to hide your identity to do the podcast?

Billy: Well, that way, i could protect the people I care about, including you, and let’s face it — I’m the coo of chancellor. I can’t trash talk a bunch of people publicly without a bunch of lawsuits being thrown our way.

Lily: Yeah, I mean, look, i see your point, but I actually loved how personal and emotional your podcast about delia was.

Billy: Hey, believe me, I do too. And that’s why I think this can be good, right? I can still speak about the things that move me and have them focused on positive, life-affirming topics, and then when I want to…go at the bad actors of the world, I can do that. Speak freely under a pseudonym. I can speak truth to power without it affecting me and the people that I care about.

Lily: Well, it’s very bruce wayne and batman.

Billy: Yeah, billy abbott by day, the dark knight by night.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: I can use a harmonizer to change my voice, make it unrecognizable. We can brand it like a completely different show. What do you think?

Lily: I mean, look, your passion is infectious, and i could see how being anonymous could open up the world for you, so why not? Might be fun, right?

Billy: Exactly, and I can say all sorts of things that billy abbott maybe couldn’t or shouldn’T.

Tessa: Alright. What about this — yay or nay?

Mariah: Nay.

Tessa: Okay.

Mariah: Uh, what about these two?

Tessa: Mm, I don’t know. Maybe a “maybe” pile?

Mariah: Do we have a maybe pile?

Tessa: Well, maybe we should start one.

Mariah: [ Chuckles ] Okay, well, let me ask you this — who do you think will be the first person to cry at the wedding?

Tessa: Oh, sharon, hands down.

Mariah: Yeah, agreed. She’s so excited to be helping plan this thing.

Tessa: Well, I am very grateful for all the help from your family with the planning, because it is gonna be one hell of a party.

Mariah: That it is. But only after the vows. Which, um, you know, have you given any thought to those?

Tessa: Oh, only every waking moment. Yeah.

Mariah: Oh, well, do you want to, you know, give me something?

Tessa: Oh, no, I am not saying a peep until may 13th.

Mariah: Great, now you’re making me even more nervous.

Tessa: Why?

Mariah: Because you’re a songwriter! It’s literally what you do. You turn words into beautiful lyrics. Your vows are gonna be so much better than mine.

Tessa: Stop that. Every time you speak from the heart, it is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard.

Mariah: Thank you. I just can’t believe all of this is happening, you know? The love between us, I mean, the love around us is just gonna make the most amazing day.

Tessa: I mean, not that we need a wedding to confirm our love or to know that we’re forever.

Mariah: Yeah, but still. I am very excited that we get to share our joy with all the people that we love. For copd,

Tessa: Mm. You know, I was thinking… with all the wedding planning, we haven’t really focused on the adoption at all. Is that bothering you?

Mariah: Yeah, I realized that when I saw the adoption paperwork under the piles of the lists for the wedding.

Tessa: [ Chuckles ]

Mariah: I still want to move forward with it. What about you?

Tessa: Oh. Hey, yes, of course. I want to bring a child into this family, 100%.

Mariah: Well, I think we have to face the fact that adopting and having a wedding at the same time was maybe a little bit too much. I just don’t know if I can do home study and lawyers and all the paperwork right now, you know? And I’m afraid a social worker would — would see that and think that we weren’t serious, when we are. It’s just…

Tessa: Yeah, no, I totally understand. We are on the same page. A month or two delay after we get married, I think, will only make us stronger candidates as parents. And I do have a lot of shows scheduled, which might make things a little tricky.

Mariah: Well, we will work around your schedule. And I promise I will take care of anything that I can while my wife is gone.

Tessa: I can handle some things from the road.

Mariah: So we’re agreed? We still want to move forward with a family?

Tessa: This is gonna be the best year of our lives.

Billy: Hello. This is “not billy abbott.” Geez. Of the lollipop gang. Let’s try this one. This is also “not billy abbott.” But clearly a baritone, probably a super villain.

[ Sighs ] Okay. Hello, this — whoa.

[ Chuckles ] This your local cable company, press one for billing. Ah. Hello? This is “not billy abbott.” Okay. I like that. That sounds interesting, and it doesn’t sound like me. Let’s try this one. Let’s talk about power. Everybody wants it. How much is too much? Then there’s that age-old question — does absolute power corrupt absolutely? Are those who crave power doomed to leave victims in their wake?

Ashland: Adam, it’s me. Have the paperwork drawn up.

Billy: Can the powerful who have been corrupted be redeemed?

Adam: Ashland’s taking the deal.

Sally: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: Is it possible to have power, to have everything you could want, and live a life with an open, vulnerable heart? Or will you only be destroyed?

Sally: Well, I was going to tell you what I’ve been thinking about for the last couple of hours, but…

Adam: I have been thinking about the same thing.

Sally: I’ll bet. I mean, you could point your mind towards the project that you pitched to victor and got approved, but…

Adam: But…this.

Sally: This is a big deal.

Adam: Yeah, it is potentially my birthday and christmas and a stock invested in splitting all rolled into one. If only the phone would ring. I could be getting a call from ashland right now saying he accepts my offer. Or he’s rejecting it.

Sally: Anticipation could be exciting, depending on who you’re waiting with.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] I mean, ashland is a smart guy. He had to do the math and realize that my deal was his best offer. It’s the only way that he can escape the mayhem with his dignity and his reputation intact. Right?

Sally: Clean slate, full bank account, can’t lose. I mean, I would take the offer.

Adam: Well, then why isn’t he jumping on it?

Sally: Because he’s toying with you. That’s what he does. He’s played this game 100 times.

Adam: I was — was flying blind. I just — I was totally going on impulse when I offered to give him that money to walk away from newman/locke. Telling that I was representing the newman family? What the hell was I thinking?

Sally: You were thinking like a leader.

Adam: [ Sighs ] It felt like the right move to make at the time. But maybe I just gave him another card to play.

Victoria: You went behind my back, daddy, to bribe ashland into leaving me?

[ Scoffs ] I don’t know what part is more offensive.

Victor: [ Chuckles ] It seems an offer was made, right, ashland? And you’re kind of considering it seriously?

Ashland: I don’t know what other option I have at this point. I want this turmoil to end, for your sake.

Nikki: The best way to end it is to admit to your lies and leave of your own volition.

Ashland: Tell your errand boy, adam, I will meet him at the grand phoenix to discuss the terms.

[ Sighs ]

Victoria: Does somebody want to tell me what’s going on here? Why the hell did you two do that?

Nick: No signs of a fight. I guess it was okay to leave you and ashland in the same room.

Sharon: [ Sighs ] How is a person supposed to believe anything that man says after what he did to victoria? You know, he started talking about how he’s gonna exonerate himself and that he’s innocent of all charges.

Nick: Thought we said we weren’t gonna engage.

Sharon: Well, I had to say something. I wasn’t in any danger. There were witnesses. Then adam came in.

Nick: What’d they say to each other?

Sharon: I don’t know. I didn’t want to get involved, so I made up some excuse and i ducked into the back, but i popped my head out now and then and watched them talking.

Nick: How’d they seem, like enemies, friends? Was it loud? Was it not?

Sharon: Mm, they were too far away for me to hear.

Nick: Well, what about, like, body language? You pick up on anything?

Sharon: I don’t know, seemed serious. High-key. They went out into the patio, so they obviously wanted privacy.

Nick: Okay.

Sharon: It was intense. I mean, nothing hostile, but they were both determined and very focused, like whatever they were talking about, their lives depended on it.

Victor: I got to come clean with you. I’m not the one who offered ashland money.

Victoria: Adam just took it upon himself? Why didn’t you just tell him, “ashland, no, I did not authorize adam to offer him money to go away”?

Victor: I’m going to discuss many things with adam, but i would not contradict him to ashland. We need to work on this whole thing as a family, stick together, okay? However, it was kind of interesting to watch ashland’s reaction to the offer. He seemed kind of interested, didn’t he?

Victoria: Do not take that at face value. It was never gonna be that simple to get rid of him. He was testing you, just like you were testing him.

Nikki: If ashland was testing anybody, it was you.

Victoria: Oh, he was not, mother.

Nikki: Oh, yes, he was. He was watching you. Every time you moved or looked his way.

Victor: Well, he can sense that you’re torn. You know he’s trying to drive a wedge between you and our family.

Victoria: I am well aware of that. Look, maybe adam’s obnoxious interference will make it easier for me to pretend that I am completely fed up with adam and blame him for setting up ashland.

Victor: But you said that ashland doesn’t like your plan of planting false evidence against adam.

Victoria: I am not giving up. I’m gonna do everything that i can to get him out of our lives and out of this company. And I’m gonna do it without spending tens of millions of dollars. Wait a minute. How much did adam offer ashland?

Nikki: $500 million. Nothing like a weekend in the woods.

Victoria: Where the hell does adam get off making an offer like that? We had a plan. We all agreed.

Victor: I will be speaking with adam. I don’t know what he was thinking when he made this plan, but he’s gonna hear from me, okay? Having said that, it’s irrelevant because we’re all trying to get rid of this bastard.

Victoria: Yes, I know, by moving forward with my plan.

Victor: But your plan has not come to fruition.

Victoria: And adam doesn’t want it to. I warned you over and over again that he would do anything that he could to try to undermine me and to try to make me look bad. This is really incredible. It’s all your fault.

Victor: Oh, yeah, what did i do?

Victoria: You should have put a stop to it before it started by letting adam know that you expected his full cooperation.

Nikki: Alright, alright. Victoria, there is nothing stopping you from executing your plan if ashland doesn’t take the money.

Victoria: “If”? Of course he won’t take the money.

Victor: Oh, yeah? Why? Because he’s eternally in love with you?

Victoria: I think you’re missing my point. I am never going to fall for ashland’s lies again. I know his mind far better than you.

Victor: Well, then kindly educate us.

Victoria: He would never accept a bribe, and he never backs down from a fight.

Nikki: If he doesn’t want the money, then why did he agree to consider adam’s offer?

Victoria: I don’t know. Maybe it was a part of his plan.

Victor: Oh, yeah? Maybe he doesn’t have any plans. Maybe this is the best option left.

Victoria: Well, I guess time will tell which one of us is right.

Nick: You know, I guess it could’ve been a business meeting. Adam is the temporary ceo.

Sharon: Of newman/locke? How did that happen?

Nick: Yeah, it was dad’s idea. He thought if he put adam in that role, it might convince ashland and victoria to not go to italy and stay in town.

Sharon: Well, I guess that worked. They stuck around.

Nick: Yeah, but adam resented it so much, he refused to go along with victoria’s plan to oust ashland unless dad decided to keep him in the big chair.

Sharon: Wow, that just sounds so —

Nick: Self-serving? Like the old adam? Imagine that. I actually tried to talk to him about it, you know, just to remind him how much progress he’s made and to let him know that it would be a real mistake to use this situation with victoria to his advantage or to allow ambition or sibling rivalry to get the better of him.

Sharon: Do you think he listened to you?

Nick: I don’t know. It was worth a shot.

Sharon: How’s victoria handling all this?

Nick: It’s hard to say. I mean, she’s pretty distant. She’s not listening to us. We’re trying to get her to come up with a plan “b,” just in case plan “a” doesn’t work. You know, I don’t think ashland is buying this at all, but she’s just so scared and defensive.

Sharon: Well, of course she is. She just had her heart broken by a man who one swept her off her feet. She’s probably feeling used and exposed.

Nick: Unfortunately, she’s still in love with him.

Sharon: Oh, no.

Nick: But she also knows that she can’t trust him completely, so when you add it all up, there’s no way in telling where she’s headed with all this or what to expect. In fact, I don’t even think victoria knows at this point.

Sally: You need to find some way to let this go. You did what you could. Seized the moment. You took bold, decisive action.

Adam: [ Exhales sharply ] That could fail miserably.

Sally: If this thing with ashland doesn’t work out, you’re gonna come up with something else. And do you know why?

Adam: Tell me.

Sally: Because you’re brilliant and relentless — a combination that is sexy as hell.

Adam: Well, that’s probably why we get along so well.

Sally: I read your mind.

Adam: Oh, you don’t say.

Sally: Do you know what I’m thinking right now?

Adam: Something like this?

Victor: Son, we have some serious business to discuss.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] I’m steve, I lost 138 pounds in nine months on golo

Adam: [ Clears throat ] Well, I’d love to hear more about what you’re here to say, but sally stays. I’m sure this is about ashland, and she is up to speed on everything.

Victor: Is she also aware of the reckless move you made offering this criminal millions of dollars to get out of the company?

Adam: I mean, I’m the one who made the deal, so why did he run to you?

Victor: Because he doesn’t trust you because he knows you were lying when you said you had the backing of your family.

Adam: So what’d he say?

[ Clears throat ] Is he gonna take the deal?

Victor: What difference does it make what he says or said? You’re trying to buy some time, trying to figure out where the hell to get that amount of money from?

Adam: Come on, nobody has that kind of cash laying around.

Victor: This is your first move as an executive, as a temporary executive of newman/locke? What are you gonna do, draw the funds from newman/locke?

Adam: No, it wouldn’t be appropriate to use company funds for a personal family, matter.

Victor: Then where the hell were you gonna get the money from?

Adam: Victoria’s the one who brought ashland into this family, so she should be the one responsible for getting him out.

Victor: Your lack of sympathy for your sister is appalling. As a family, we don’t do this.

Sharon: I remember how worried nikki and victor were about victoria when she split with billy. After she was attacked. Nikki even asked me to help. I mean, I imagine in some ways this feels even worse for them.

Nick: Oh, yeah, they were all in on the wedding, and I was sent to the doghouse for even daring to doubt the guy.

Sharon: And now it’s all falling apart anyway.

Nick: The scary part is if it doesn’t fall apart completely and victoria tries to salvage her relationship with ashland.

Sharon: You mean if she chooses him over the entire family?

Nick: If she does that, it could cause a rift in the family that may never repair.

Sharon: Oh, nikki.

Nikki: Hi, sharon.

Sharon: You know what? Why don’t I get you your usual? Are you gonna stick around or do you want it to go?

Nikki: Make it to go, and we’ll play it by ear. Thank you.

Nick: What have I missed?

Nikki: You’re never gonna believe it.

Nick: Let me guess, something to do with adam.

Nikki: Oh, how did you know?

Nick: Sharon said she saw adam and ashland in here talking earlier, and from the looks of it, it was a pretty intense conversation.

Nikki: Apparently adam has decided that he’s going to handle this ashland situation all on his own.

Nick: Nobody asked for his help.

Nikki: No, no, we did not. However, he told ashland that the family had authorized him to make an offer of an ungodly amount of money to terminate his contract at newman/locke and to walk away from victoria.

Nick: Let me guess how ashland reacted — he went whining and crying to victoria, saying there was no amount of money that will ever replace her and that their love will last forever and ever.

Nikki: Actually, no, he went to your father first.

Nick: Why would he do that?

Nikki: To make sure it was a bona fide offer. It was the first your father heard of it, but he played along and pretended that the offer was authentic.

Nick: Are you telling me that ashland’s considering taking this deal from adam?

Nikki: I don’t know. Victoria says he’s just pretending to be interested.

Nick: Well, it’s probably hard for her to accept that she meant so little to him.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] She begged us to trust her to handle this, and god knows I am trying my best, but the more time she spends with him, the more opportunity he has to charm his way back into her heart.

Victoria: We should talk.

Ashland: I’ll do anything you want, but not here. We need privacy.

Victoria: That would be ideal, yes. I’ll grab us a suite.

Wait, oh, yes

Nick: $500 million?

Nikki: Can you believe that?

Nick: It’s the exact figure that victoria, abby, and I won in that lawsuit with dad.

Nikki: Coincidence?

Nick: Doesn’t feel like it.

Nikki: Have you ever heard of a golden parachute that large for a ceo that has barely spent any time in that position? Now, mind you, adam is asking him to do more than just walk away from his job, he has to say goodbye to victoria, too.

Nick: Look, he’s probably just flexing his muscles. You know, he gets rid of ashland, he impresses dad. He proves that he can handle things on all fronts, unlike victoria.

Nikki: Yes, that’s exactly the message he was sending — that he thought her plan was doomed to fail. And she saw that for what it was. She’s furious.

Nick: And she has every right to be. If adam was this convinced that victoria’s plan was gonna be so ineffective, then he should’ve come to us, and together we could’ve come up with an alternative option. Instead, he just goes off freelancing.

Nikki: I really don’t know that he has it in him to be a team player.

Nick: How’s dad reacting to this?

Nikki: Well, he’s not happy.

Victor: I assume your coo encouraged you to take this path. And you thought it was a good idea based on what, based on her extensive experience in corporate deal-making?

Adam: No, dad, this was my idea. And it was mine alone.

Sally: But once I did hear about it, I thought it was wonderful. Simple, clear, and direct.

Adam: Look, I wanted to provide ashland with the incentive to do what you’ve been telling him to do ever since you discovered he’s a fraud — to get out of our lives.

Victor: Are you forgetting that victoria already had a plan?

Adam: Can I get a show of hands of anyone who actually thought that plan could work? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone?!

Victor: Stop it!

Adam: Okay? I am coming at the problem from a different angle.

Victor: Really? Hell of an angle. You slack off, you listen to her advice, and you agree to pay this bastard hundreds of millions of dollars. Are you serious?!

Sally: If I may, adam’s plan is only expensive if it works, but you haven’t even told us how ashland responded to adam’s deal. If he wasn’t interested or he just blew it off, then this whole conversation is moot, right? There’s nothing to argue about.

Adam: He didn’t reject it, did he?

Victoria: Tell me that you never took that offer seriously. Tell me that you were just trying to make adam feel self-satisfied so that he would let his guard down.

Ashland: I’m sorry to say that adam has every reason to feel confident right now. He’s finally on track to getting everything he’s ever wanted. He’ll be victor’s shining star. Respected, admired, and, yes, he will take over for me once I’m gone.

Victoria: “Gone”?

Ashland: Yes. I told you already I want to get the hell out of this place. Start someplace fresh.

Victoria: You were tired. I — I just thought you were fantasizing or that you felt discouraged.

Ashland: All of the above.

Victoria: You know there is still time to hold adam accountable for all that he’s done. Clearly you can see by now that he is trying to set you up, now that he’s made this final push to shove you out of the company, now he’s demanding that we end our marriage. Tell me that you’re not gonna give in to these demands. You’re gonna fight this, right?

Ashland: I know that you want me to plant evidence to incriminate adam.

Victoria: It’s the least that he deserves.

Ashland: I care more about what you deserve. Victoria, I can’t give it all to you anymore. We can no longer continue the life that we’d planned and loved and built, running newman/locke side-by-side and trusting each other implicitly. That life is not gonna happen. But I can still be the man that I promised you I would be on the day we got married.

[ Sighs ] The thing is…I’m a selfish man. Greedy and selfish. I don’t just want your love. I want your respect. And I know if I do this thing that you’re asking me to do, that’s what I’ll lose.

Victoria: And that’s your final answer. You’re not gonna do what’s necessary to bring adam down.

Ashland: No. The answer to lies is not more lies.

Victoria: But it’s all been lies, hasn’t it? From the very beginning.

Adam: [ Clears throat ] Loud and clear. You want me to work for the good of the family, and honestly, that’s what I thought that I was doing.

Victor: Don’t ever go off on your own and make a deal of this magnitude without me knowing about it.

Adam: Listen, I was trying to help. Sometimes you got to think outside the boardroom. I made a judgment call.

Victor: You had no right to take the situation into your own hands — none!

Adam: Okay, look, I should’ve come to you before I made the offer, definitely, yes, but i wasn’t trying to get away with anything. I saw locke, the idea came to me, and I just ran with it.

Sally: It’s true. I was there. It was not something we had discussed. He was just inspired.

Victor: I don’t care if you were there or not! It was an impulsive decision. You shouldn’t have made it without consulting me and the family. Don’t you ever do that again! Isn’t that what you accused your sister of, having rushed into a plan?

Adam: Look, there were plenty of problems with victoria’s plan. Most importantly, he didn’t bite on the bait, which was me. And when I gave him my offer, i actually saw a big, beautiful light turn on behind his dead eyes, okay? He was intrigued. So what did the guy say?

Victor: He said he’s at the grand phoenix, waiting for you.

Adam: When? Right now?

Victor: Maybe he’s still there now.

Adam: Okay, uh, well, it’s past the point of no return. Unless you want me to kill this deal. Tell me now. Just say the word, and I’ll drop it.

Victor: Son, let me say this quietly. Once again, don’t ever make a deal without me knowing. Not a deal of that magnitude.

Nick: I mean, is there a chance adam’s plan could work, just paying him off? It’s not clever, it’s not overly complicated, but maybe that’s it’s saving grace.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] It’s easy money, if that’s what ashland is looking for.

Nick: You think he’s ready to give up control of the company?

Nikki: I don’t know. He asked your father to have adam meet him at the grand phoenix so they could go over the agreement. Although that could’ve just been a tactic.

Nick: Well, what does that buy him?

Nikki: I don’t know. More time? He’s always telling her how much he adores her and he would give up the world for her. This scheme feeds right into that. The poor thing, I mean, she must feel like we don’t support her and that we’ve given up faith in her.

Nick: And then ashland could twist things around, make it seem like it’s just the two of them versus the big, mean newman family.

Nikki: And then he can make this enormous sacrifice out of love.

Nick: When really it’s just a ploy, a way to pull her back to him.

Victoria: My god, you really are a piece of work, aren’t you?

Ashland: I don’t understand where this is coming from.

Victoria: Love really is blind, right, ashland? But guess what — my eyes have been opened.

Ashland: By your family.

Victoria: No, by you. There’s one thing I have known, that everybody knows about you, is that you are a fighter. You never surrender and you hardly ever show mercy, so there is no way in hell that you would ever let anyone set you up or sully your reputation. And then what, after that, you’re gonna take a payoff and you’re just gonna walk away from the company that you built with your wife? That wouldn’t happen.

Ashland: You’re making a lot of assumptions.

Victoria: The only reason you stopped looking for evidence against adam is because you know that there isn’t any. You know that he didn’t set you up. You’re 100% guilty. You have been faking your cancer for months. You falsified records. You bribed the doctors. You conned me into caring about you, and after I gave you my heart and my trust and after everything that you put me through, you at least owe me the truth. Can you not give me the truth?!

Ashland: You’re right. About one thing. Who I am — I am a fighter. What you may not be considering is that I’ve changed what I’m fighting for. Do you struggle with occasional nerve aches

Victoria: You want me to believe that you are fighting for me.

Ashland: I am.

Victoria: And yet you just told my parents that you would consider accepting a bribe to get me out of your life.

[ Scoffs ] I’m sorry, just pardon my confusion.

Ashland: What I consider and what I agree to are not necessarily the same things.

Victoria: Oh, right, yeah. It’s all just semantics.

Ashland: Look, I know that it doesn’t matter anymore what i say to you. It’s not likely you’re gonna believe any promises or denials that come out of my mouth right now. I understand that. I get it.

Victoria: That is so big of you.

Ashland: But I’m gonna let you in on a little secret, okay? I don’t believe you either. When you act like this — so tough and so above it all — i know what’s going on inside.

Victoria: Whatever affection I might still have for you is far outweighed by how angry I am with you.

Ashland: If the situation were reversed, if I found out that you were using me, a sick and dying man, to gain control of locke communications, I would be livid.

Victoria: Would you?

Ashland: Yes. I would feel betrayed, I would feel used, I would feel manipulated, and yet it would be impossible for me to stop loving you. Because I would know in my heart that no matter how our relationship started, no matter what kind of simplistic and grasping intentions we had at the beginning, that what it turned into was something entirely different. Something real and true and strong. And I would know that you were in love with me despite your best efforts to cover it up or pretend it away.

Victoria: It seems that you’ve decided to disregard everything that I say.

Ashland: No, I’m telling you that a love as strong and real as ours cannot be forced or faked. It cannot be an act, and you can’t convince me otherwise.

Victoria: So if the shoe were on the other foot, you would forgive me.

Ashland: Without hesitation.

Victoria: Because?

Ashland: Because I love you. And I could never stop loving you.

Victoria: What is it that you want from me?

Ashland: The same thing you want from me. The truth.

Nick: Alright, you’ll let me know if you hear anything.

Nikki: Yes, of course I will.

Nick: Look, mom, don’t worry. Vick is gonna come out of this stronger and tougher than she’s ever been.

Nikki: I hope so. She’s been through so much.

Nick: She’s gonna be okay.

Nikki: Alright, I’m gonna take off.

Nick: Alright, I love you.

Nikki: Love you too.

Sharon: She looks really worried.

Nick: Well, everything keeps piling up. We thought adam was up to something, and we were right.

Sharon: Why, what did she say to you?

Nick: Do you remember when you saw adam and ashland in here talking?

Sharon: Yeah.

Nick: Well, I guess adam decided he didn’t trust victoria to be able to single-handedly get ashland out of our lives, so what you were watching was adam going behind the family’s back, putting his own plan in motion.

Sharon: Should I act surprised?

Nick: Now everything’s up in the air. Ashland’s gonna have a chance to play us all against each other. It’s time I have a talk with ashland, and I know right where to find him.

Sharon: Wait. Nick, I don’t think that’s a good idea.

Victor: I have issues with your plan, son. What if ashland locke pretends to agree to accept the $500 million? Then he can toy with us. He can suddenly say, “I don’t like the deal.” And then what?

Adam: So what are you gonna do? Are you gonna just wait and hope that victoria’s plan works out?

Victor: Victoria’s plan was a damn good plan, son. Very good plan. All we had to do is catch him in doing something illegal. He would’ve terminated his contract with newman/locke. He would’ve been the hell out.

Sally: If he’s up to something underhanded, he’s never gonna get caught. He’s way too smart. He’s been five steps ahead of victoria since the day he made her his mark, and I am not victim-blaming because I thought he was in love with victoria just like everyone else.

Adam: Look, I’m not asking you to trust locke, because i certainly don’T. But if he agrees to walk away, i will insist that he signs ironclad legal documents. Okay? Nondisclosure, non-compete — all of it. It’ll be easy. We’ll make it clean, and we can get him out of our lives for good.

Victor: All this is contingent upon you getting ahold of $500 million. Where are you gonna get it — victoria? You know that’s out of the question. What? You think it’s gonna come from me?

Adam: What is worth to you to get this guy out of our lives?

Victor: [ Sighs ]

Nick: Just give me one good reason why I shouldn’t let ashland have it.

Sharon: Well, you just got through saying how wrong it was for adam to go behind victoria’s back and take charge of the situation himself.

Nick: Yeah, I know, but it’s —

Sharon: How is that any different than you going to confront ashland right now? What is that gonna do? It’ll show victoria that you don’t trust her to handle this herself.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Well, it’ll make me feel better.

Sharon: Okay, but this isn’t about you.

Nick: I know, you’re right.

Sharon: Why are you even involved in this? Why don’t you just sit this one out?

Nick: This sick bastard has caused my sister so much pain.

Sharon: Okay, well, if you want to get involved, go to her. Just offer her your love and support. That’s what she really needs right now.

Adam: Yeah, it’s an obscene amount of money.

Victor: Hmm.

Adam: But what price can you put on freedom? Because that’s what you would be buying for victoria. My sister would never have to see this guy again. She could stop pretending to love him because it’s pretty clear that’s what’s messing with her head, no matter how much she wants to claim otherwise. And, dad, aside from that, we have to get this guy out of the family company. He gets in control, he can make major changes. Our management team — gone. His lieutenants get promoted, he could sell off entire divisions to the highest bidder. I think half a billion dollars is a small price to pay to avoid the kind of chaos that that man could unleash.

Victor: You’re not bringing up anything that I haven’t already considered.

Adam: Well, I figured as much. So what do you want me to do?

Victor: Meet with him. Make the deal.

Adam: And the money?

Victor: It’ll come from your father.

Adam: You — you won’t regret this.

Victor: See to it that i don’T.

Victoria: After everything that’s transpired, how can you expect me to forgive you?

Ashland: No, no, no, don’t go anywhere. I know it sounds mad. Just hear me out. We can start over. And thanks to adam, ironically, we will have all the capital we need to start our next venture.

Ashland: I do understand. Think about the life we could have. No suspicions. No judgment. No family rivalries. Just the two of us…and this crazy, perfect love that we have found together. You want that…every bit as much as I do. Don’t you?

Victor: Sweetheart, please answer your mother’s questions. Are you saying that, after all the betrayal and all the lies, you still feel love for ashland locke?

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Do I love him? Or do I hate him? I mean, does it really matter?

Nick: Yeah. It does. We need to know if you have cut ties with ashland. I’m very concerned about the emotional toll this has taken on you. If you still have feelings for him, it’s gonna be much, much worse.

Victoria: Yes, nicholas, the feelings that I had for ashland were very strong, and they are not simply gonna go away overnight, even after finding out that he’s been lying to me for months.

Nick: Not just lying.

Victoria: I know what he’s done, nick. But what I’m saying is, whatever residual emotion there is left in my heart, it doesn’t matter. What matters is the crimes that he’s committed against me and this family. What matters is this plan to get him out of our lives and out of our company.

Nikki: But, darling, the plan seems to be falling apart.

Victor: Are you saying locke is having second thoughts?

Nikki: [ Sighs ] Now he doesn’t know if he wants to set adam up. Even though adam agreed to go along with it, ashland may not follow through.

Victor: Are you telling me that this is all off the rail now, this whole plan?

Sally: Thank you.

[ Sighs ]

Ashland: [ Sighs ] You have my attention.

Adam: Huh. Well, I would hope so. Half a billion dollars is, uh, hard to ignore. All you have to do is walk away from victoria and newman/locke.

Ashland: Well, I’m not exactly strapped for cash, but, uh, that is a substantial amount of money.

Adam: It’s enough to go anywhere that is not genoa city. You know, you could buy yourself a private island, buy a business, rebuild your empire. You could build a rocket and blast yourself into space. I don’t really care. But most importantly, you would get a drama-free exit with no questions asked.

Ashley: Are you spying on the neighbors?

Traci: [ Laughs ] No!

[ Laughs ]

Ashley: You know, seeing you like this, traci, reminds me when we were little. Daddy would go on business trips, and the day he was returning home, you would be here all day long, waiting for him to walk through that door. Do you remember that?

Traci: I remember vividly. I just — I just loved it when he came home from a trip. It just felt better when he was here with us, you know? Safer.

Ashley: Yeah. Plus, he always brought us presents from wherever he’d been, right?

Traci: Yeah. That helped.

Ashley: And here you are all these years later standing here and waiting for jack in the exact same spot.

Traci: Well, I just want to hear about los angeles. And I want to hear what happened with his granddaughter, allie. He’ll be here any minute.

Ashley: Maybe he’ll bring you a present.

Traci: Oh, that would be nice!

[ Laughs ] I just — I really hope the trip went the way he wanted it to.

Ashley: Me too.

Traci: [ Chuckles ]

Phyllis: Thank you. It’s so chivalrous of you to bring in my bag. Um, you don’t need to.

Jack: I just wanted to make sure you got settled in.

Phyllis: Thank you. I wish there was something i could do for you.

Jack: Are you joking? You have been such a help. It feels like you’ve been by my side for weeks now.

Phyllis: You know what i mean. I wish there was something i could do for you right this moment.

Jack: Can you call kyle and tell him his mother’s actually alive and wants to be part of his life now?

Phyllis: Well, I’m gonna stay away from that. In fact, I don’t even want to talk to summer right now. I’m afraid it’ll slip.

Jack: No, I have to be the one to tell him. Boy, am I not looking forward to that conversation.

Phyllis: No, but you have to do it before diane does. I mean —

Jack: Yeah, I just don’t know how he’s gonna react. Never in a million years did i imagine I would be in this situation. Poor kyle.

Jack: The whole situation is just a mess.

Jack: It’s not just kyle’s reaction. Allie was dragged into the middle of this. That trip was supposed to be about me spending time with her, getting to know her. The whole thing was ruined by diane’s intrusion.

Jack: Oh. Bear with me. It’s billy. He wants to know how my trip went. Well, I guess I have to break the news to all of my siblings at the same time. Wish me luck. I’m about to blow up a good old-fashioned abbott family meeting.

Victoria: Ashland was adamant that he didn’t want me to cross an ethical line. He felt that if — if I helped him to frame adam, it would corrupt me and there would be no coming back from that. He also suggested that the two of us run away together.

Victor: He’s testing you. He’s suspicious. He wants to know you’re on his side.

Nikki: That’s what I thought, too. He’s no dummy.

Nick: By that, you mean he is sneaky and a criminal.

Victor: Of course he is. We don’t know what he’s gonna do.

Nick: Well, he may catch on to what we’re up to.

Victor: If he even gets a hint of our plan, we need to rethink it.

Nick: I agree. The more I think about it, the more reservations I have.

Nikki: What we need to be concerned about is —

Victoria: I can handle myself. I can handle ashland. This plan is solid. I chose to bring you all in on it. I trusted you to help me. I just told you how committed i am to seeing it through, and you still don’t trust me.

Ashland: See, I think accepting a deal like this, as generous as it may seem, uh, may appear to be an admission of guilt.

Adam: [ Chuckles ]

[ Laughs ] Are you still playing this game?

Ashland: What game is that?

Adam: The one where we all pretend like you’re still innocent. Come on. Get over yourself, locke. There’s enough evidence out there. You never had cancer. You preyed on victoria’s emotions to get your hands on my family’s company. And I don’t care about that. I’m not judging. My past is littered with similar schemes, okay? You saw an angle. You played it. Good for you. But now it’s over. Make it easy on yourself. Get paid. Get out of this. With your reputation intact.

Ashland: You make it sound like it’s a generous offer and that you care about your sister, but this is really all about your own self-interest, isn’t it?

Adam: [ Chuckles ] I have the family’s interest at heart.

Ashland: Yeah, but if you get me out of the picture, then you can set your sights on victoria and you can make your move to be ceo of the company.

Adam: Look, I don’t think that my motives should play a role in your decision.

Ashland: Fair enough. $500 million. And you claim you’re representing victor and the family.

Adam: That’s right.

Ashland: How do I know that’s true? Does victor even know you’re making this offer?

Adam: [ Chuckles ] (Dramatic music)

Victor: Sweetheart, this is not about distrusting you. But you’ve got to realize that ashland locke is backpedaling from your plan because he is suspicious.

Victoria: Or maybe he is seriously conflicted. Maybe it’s possible to be this ruthless and to also love me and want to protect me. The two of those ideas are not mutually exclusive.

Victor: Well…

[ Sighs ] Maybe you’re right. It’s possible.

Victoria: That’s very ironic, coming from you.

Victor: What do you mean by that?

Nikki: She is comparing the dynamic she has with ashland to what you and I have. Now, you can be ruthless, yet you love me. You always want to protect me. And I have always loved you, even at your worst. And vice versa. But I can’t bring myself to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Victor: Sweetheart, the situations are different.

Victoria: The hell they are.

Victor: Ashland locke is a complete narcissist. That beautiful wedding in tuscany — if he had been a man, he would have come to you and told you about his past, about his lies! He would have begged you for forgiveness.

Nick: Or at least before he signed that contract to be co-ceo.

Victor: He used you, sweetheart. I hate to say this. He would have tossed you away as soon as he thought he had benefited enough. Trust me, I’m gonna make that bastard pay for the pain he has caused you. But you’ve seen enough now. You’ve seen what he has done. Don’t question your plan now.

Adam: You give me more credit than I deserve. I mean, you really think I have the, uh, temerity and the guts to make a deal like this without my father’s approval?

Ashland: Oh, I wouldn’t put anything past you. But you’re probably right. $500 million does cross a line. Victor would have to sign off on that. I think the amount, though… is really interesting, don’t you? I mean, if your father chose that number, that’s a bit cruel, don’t you think?

Adam: No, I’d say it’s quite generous, actually.

Ashland: Oh, no, no, I don’t mean cruel toward me. Toward you. I mean, I happen to know that $500 million is exactly the amount of money your father was forced to pay his other children when they sued him over their trusts. Victoria, nick, even abby. But not you.

Adam: Well, uh, if you did your research properly, you would know that, um, I was not a part of that lawsuit.

Ashland: Well, no, but it still seems unfair, don’t you think? I mean, you never got that kind of money from your father.

Adam: [ Chuckles ]

Ashland: It’s almost as if he was saying to you that you weren’t in the same league as his other children, as your siblings. That’s got to hurt.

Adam: Yeah. That was a nice try. Really. But I’m doing just fine.

Ashland: Okay. Still, though, to have to prove yourself over and over and over again to the old man — that has to be exhausting.

Adam: Yeah. My father and I are, uh, in a great place, actually. And as for the amount, which he and I agreed on, uh, I wouldn’t over-analyze it. We just were looking for the exact number necessary to get you out of our lives — and not a penny more.

Billy: Jack said to meet him here and he’ll fill us in when he arrives.

Traci: Fill us in on what? I mean, he never said anything to me.

Billy: Patience, darling. He’s on his way.

Ashley: Traci’s very anxious to welcome a new member into our family, obviously.

Traci: I am. It’s so exciting. I just — I just hope that jack and allie were able to find ways to forge a new connection.

[ Door opens ] Oh!

Jack: Oh, good, you’re all here.

Billy: Hey.

Traci: Jack. How did it go? Does allie want to go ahead with the relationship? When are we gonna get to meet her?

Billy: Just so you know, uh, traci’s already photoshopped her into our family portrait.

Traci: If I knew anything about how to do that, I would have.

Ashley: How are you? How’d it go?

Jack: First let me say this. It is so good to see these three faces in this house. We don’t do this enough. We all know how important family is. This should be a regular occurrence.

Traci: That is a wonderful idea, and I agree.

Billy: We all agree, but you’re stalling. What’s going on?

Jack: Allie. Have a seat.

Traci: Okay.

Jack: Allie is lovely. She’s pretty. She’s bright. She’s curious. She’s thoughtful. She reminded me of keemo from time to time.

Traci: Oh, that’s so nice.

Jack: But more than anything, she reminded me of you.

Ashley: Me?

Jack: Yes. Clear-eyed, critical-thinking. She’s working on her master’s in chemical engineering. I know how skeptical you have been about this whole situation. There’s someone else who’s even more skeptical — allie. I think you two are gonna hit it off when you finally meet.

Traci: Oh, I like the sound of that. So, when is she coming to visit?

Jack: Hopefully very soon. First I need to tell you all about something else that happened in los angeles.

Ashley: What is it?

Traci: Uh-oh. You look a little unsettled.

Jack: There’s no easy way to say this, no simple way to prepare you.

Ashley: Okay. What happened?

Jack: I learned the identity of the mysterious texter, the person who’d been luring me out to los angeles to keemo’s house. In fact, she ultimately bought keemo’s house.

Traci: Wait, “she”?

Jack: She. No matter who we considered, i never allowed for this possibility because it wasn’t possible.

Ashley: Jack, what are you talking about? Who is she?

Jack: Diane jenkins. She’s alive. One fateful morning,

Adam: Well, I think we covered everything. Except, of course, a deadline.

Ashland: Why does there have to be a deadline?

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Because we’re not gonna drag this out, okay? This is a one-time offer. You can take it, or you can leave it, but it expires today.

Ashland: It’s a lot to consider. What if I need more time?

Adam: You have one hour, okay? If you agree to the deal, the money will be wired into an account of your choosing tomorrow morning. And if not…good luck surviving what comes next.

Nick: Vick, we’re all just trying to look out for you.

Nikki: It may seem heavy-handed.

Victoria: “Seems”? It is heavy-handed.

Nikki: We don’t want you to feel attacked. We just need to get through to you.

Victoria: I don’t appreciate being told how to feel.

Nick: But you still don’t have affection for this guy, right?

Victoria: Oh, just give me some time to think about it, nicholas. It seems like every time we talk, it always comes back to your lack of faith in my ability to make good decisions.

Nikki: Honey, it’s just that we want to make sure you have a clear view of the situation.

Victoria: I just need time. I need some time right now away from all of you to think about this.

Nick: [ Sighs ]

Amanda: Well, hello.

Phyllis: Hey. How are you? Are you meeting somebody here?

Amanda: Uh, yeah. Yeah, I’m here to see someone very important, actually.

Phyllis: Who?

Amanda: You.

Phyllis: Me?

Amanda: Yes.

Phyllis: Oh.

Amanda: Yeah, and I came by yesterday, and someone told me that you were out of town.

Phyllis: Yeah. Yeah, I went to L.A.

Amanda: [ Gasps ] You did?

Phyllis: Yeah, jack went to california, and I — I flew there to meet him.

Amanda: Okay. Well, hopefully you got to do something fun this time around. Sightseeing? The beach?

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ] No, this trip definitely was not fun. Um, jack is dealing with the whole, you know, death of his son, keemo, and… yeah, it was one revelation after the other.

Amanda: I’m sorry. You know I just went through that same drama with my family, so I know how intense it can be.

Phyllis: Yeah. Yeah, “intense” doesn’t even begin to describe it.

Billy: I’m sorry. Please tell me that this is some kind of sick joke.

Jack: Not at all.

Traci: Okay, is possible that you only think diane’s alive? Maybe the texter’s messing with with your head.

Jack: Diane is alive. I saw her. I talked to her more than once.

Billy: How — how is that possible? They found her body.

Ashley: This is insane.

Traci: O-okay, let’s focus on what’s important. Diane, who miraculously came back from the dead after all these years, knew that keemo passed away and knew of the existence of allie?

Jack: Yes, that’s right.

Traci: So she’s gonna take this information and try to insinuate herself back into your life.

Jack: That’s not the way she would put it.

Ashley: Well, of course not because she could rationalize any horrible thing she’s ever done.

Jack: She was hoping that by bringing me and allie together, she could gain my forgiveness, at least enough forgiveness that I would allow her to re-establish a relationship with kyle.

Traci: Oh, no. Poor kyle.

Billy: And let me guess — she wants to be a mother again after all these years?

Ashley: You’re not gonna let that happen.

Jack: I was as outraged as you are by her demands. I know this is a lot to take in, and I’m asking you to keep this between us. I told you this because i haven’t told kyle yet, and i have to tell him soon.

Traci: Are you sure?

Jack: His mother’s alive. I can’t keep that from him. Look, and this has to be told in person. I can’t do this over the phone. So I’ve encouraged him to come here to genoa city in the next couple of weeks and I will tell him then.

Traci: But, jack, what is this gonna do to him, though? He grieved and suffered when she died. How could she put him through this?

Ashley: Because she’s inherently selfish.

Billy: Okay, can we go back to the beginning? How is this woman not dead?

Jack: You’re not gonna believe this.

Ashley: You know, when it comes to diane, I’d believe just about anything. So, please tell us — how did this bitch come back into our lives? What can I du with less asthma?

Jack: Well, she claims she’s been rehabilitating herself. She’s turned her life around. She’s looking at a happier, healthier future.

Ashley: Please. You didn’t buy any of that.

Jack: Not for one second.

Ashley: Thank god.

Jack: Everything you’re feeling — the anger, the shock, the outrage — I felt tenfold when I saw her face-to-face. And I haven’t forgotten one thing she did to me. The lies, the games, using kyle’s custody as a weapon. And, ashley, I have not forgotten what she did to you.

Ashley: Where do I even start? She slept with my fiancé. She blackmailed me. What she did to my daughter. And then her so-called death. We were all turned into suspects. Our lives were turned completely upside down the entire time she was alive. Even you hate her, and you try to think the best of everybody.

Traci: Well, she takes pleasure in wreaking havoc.

Ashley: She does. I just wish she’d crawl back under that rock she climbed out from under.

Billy: Well, she’s not going to, so please tell me you have a plan on how to deal with her — because she is a potential threat to half of this town. What do you think she’s gonna do next?

Jack: [ Sighs ]

Nick: Well, it’s probably my fault she took off. I was just trying to be supportive, but I probably came on too strong.

Nikki: Darling, you were coming from a good place. But that didn’t make it any easier for her.

Victor: [ Sighs ] Do you think we were too tough on her?

Nikki: We said what needed to be said.

Nick: I just wish she would have received it better, you know? I got to go. Uh, call me if anything comes up?

Victor: Okay, son.

Nikki: Alright.

[ Door closes ]

Nikki: Well, I’m gonna stay. I have a little work to do. I have a feeling victoria will be back sooner rather than later.

Victor: I’ll stick around, okay?

Nikki: Good. I think, when she has a chance to process everything, she’ll calm down.

Victor: [ Sighs ] You mean and realize that we were right?

Nikki: Oh, well, I don’t know about that. But hopefully we can all have a civil conversation. And we’ll take it from there. Together.

Victor: Yeah.

Sally: Wait. What? A half a billion dollars, and ashland didn’t say yes immediately?

Adam: Uh, well, he didn’t turn it down immediately, either, which suggests he is considering it.

Sally: So, you think he’s just gonna take the money and run?

Adam: He should. I mean, I made quite a strong case. But, uh, nothing’s for certain until I hear from him.

Sally: Well, I hope you get the answer that you want. But either way, for what it’s worth, I think you handled it masterfully.

Adam: Well, it’s worth a lot.

Sally: I have another question.

Adam: Oh, look who’s here.

Sally: Do you want to go somewhere else? I mean, in case you’re not in the mood to deal with her?

Adam: No, no, no. It’s okay. I, um — I have to talk to her for a moment. Do you, uh, want to get us a table?

Sally: Yeah.

Adam: So, how is the plan coming along? Any indication that ashland’s gonna make another move?

Victoria: You sound concerned.

Adam: Uh, well, I am a little bit. No one’s hacked into my computer today to plant fake evidence. So, if ashland is planning on committing a criminal conspiracy, he’s moving at a snail’s pace.

Victoria: I don’t really want to get into it, but there may be a change in plans. Motrin works fast to stop pain where it starts.

Ashley: Jack, clearly you see that her leading you to allie is just another one of diane’s games.

Jack: She claims it isn’T.

Ashley: Oh, jack.

Jack: She claims that she honestly wants to make amends with kyle. Look, my first instinct was to say, “hell, no.” To do what I could to protect kyle from any more pain. But phyllis helped me realize… that it’s kyle’s choice to decide whether she’s gonna be in his life or not.

Ashley: Phyllis? You told phyllis all this before you told your own family?

Jack: Phyllis was with me in los angeles, yeah.

Ashley: Why?

Jack: Because she decided to fly out to support me, knowing it might be a little difficult with allie.

Ashley: Well, that was nice of her.

Jack: Yes, it was, and I’m glad she did because I’ve been spinning out of control ever since diane showed up. No. She kept me grounded. And that’s exactly what i needed.

Amanda: So, you just flew to california because jack asked you to?

Phyllis: Uh, I offered.

Amanda: So, a gesture like that — it feels like there is more than just friendship going on.

Phyllis: You’re interpreting gestures now, are you?

Amanda: Phyllis, I’m just saying that, you know, clearly your connection with jack is getting a little deeper.

Phyllis: You know, this trip… it’s not what you think.

Amanda: You don’t know what i think.

Phyllis: Yeah, I do know what you think because it’s what you’ve been thinking all along. Listen, um, what jack is going through right now is — is quite profound. And, um, I was sort of there as his advisor, a voice of reason.

Amanda: [ Chuckles ] Well, that doesn’t sound like you at all, phyllis.

Phyllis: Yeah, I know. On this trip, I really had to push against my basic instinct. Trust me.

Amanda: Well, if that doesn’t show how much you care about jack, I don’t know what does.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] Just so there’s no misunderstanding… jack and I are just friends. Really. Especially now. What he needs is a friend. And what I need is a friend.

Amanda: Okay. Yes. You’ve convinced me, alright? But as your friend in a very different way than jack, I’m thinking that there is something very important that we must do.

Adam: What do you mean, there’s been a change in plans?

Victoria: You’ll know when you need to.

Adam: [ Sighs ] You really are a piece of work. I have put myself at risk to try to help you, and you can’t even do the bare minimum to keep me informed? It’s like I’m a lesser being than you, except when you need something from me.

Victoria: Would you please calm down.

Adam: Okay. Obviously, your plan didn’t work. You screwed it up, didn’t you?

Victoria: Not at all.

Adam: I told dad that this was not gonna work. There was too many moving parts. I knew it. Let me guess. Ashland saw through your deception and he’s backing off. You can’t try to control the world. It kind of sucks to find that out, doesn’t it?

Victoria: I have accomplished more than you’ll ever dream of.

Adam: Maybe because, uh, i haven’t been given the opportunity. Oh, you’ve been given plenty of chances, adam, and you’ve failed every time. Because you are who you are.

Ashland: Oh.

Nikki: Uh, victoria just stepped out. We’re not sure for how long.

Ashland: That’s fine. In fact, I’m, uh, glad to see you both here, especially you, victor.

Victor: Why is that?

Ashland: I was hoping we could discuss the offer adam just made.

Victor: What’s there to discuss?

Ashland: Well, primarily, I’d like to know if it was legit.

Victor: Why wouldn’t it be legit?

Ashland: It’s a great deal of money.

Victor: So?

Ashland: You must really want me out of here.

Victor: I do, indeed. The amount seemed appropriate.

Ashland: Maybe. But the fact that it came from adam seemed cold.

Victor: Really? Why?

Ashland: The amount. You see, I happen to know that that’s the exact same number that you were forced to hand over to each of your children except adam. So he was forced to relive that pain all over again.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Ashland: Which I thought was heartless on your part.

Victor: [ Chuckles ]

Ashland: How exactly do you rationalize putting your own son in that position?

Victor: How the hell do you dare come in here and ask me about my relationship with my son, hmm? Question is, are you willing to accept the offer of $500 million and get the hell out of town?

Lean cuisine.

Adam: Victoria was clearly on the defensive, refusing to admit that she blew it with ashland. Her plan is a mess.

Sally: It’s a dumpster fire.

Adam: Mm-hmm. It just validates, uh, my decision to take matters into my own hands and, uh, create an alternative plan.

Sally: Right. But here’s what I was about to ask you before we saw victoria earlier. How is your dad gonna react to you offering ashland a huge amount of money without consulting with him first?

Adam: If ashland takes the deal and he leaves town, my dad will be fine with it. And if he turns it down… he doesn’t even need to know.

Ashland: I have not yet decided if I’m going to take this offer or not. One mustn’t rush into a decision of this magnitude. There’s so many angles to consider. I did think it was possible that adam was acting on his own.

Victor: You think he would agree to that sum of money without my permission?

Ashland: Funny. That’s exactly what he said. Maybe this offer is real. But there was a moment when you seemed to hesitate, as if i caught you off guard.

Victor: [ Chuckles ] You surmise correctly. I was stunned by your gall, your unmitigated gall, to walk into this office knowing full well that we are all aware of what you have done.

[ Door opens ]

Victoria: What’s going on here?

Ashland: A negotiation.

Victoria: What are you talking about?

Ashland: Well, adam — and perhaps your father — have just made me an offer of a whole lot of money to walk away from everything I have here in genoa city, including you. What do you think? Should I take the deal and go? Maybe I put you through enough pain. Maybe it’s time to put it to an end. Maybe we should just both move on.

Traci: “Grounded” is not usually a word I would use to describe phyllis, but I’m very glad that she was there to help you during these very horrible circumstances.

Jack: Phyllis was a life-saver. And she’s right about being honest with kyle. He deserves to know the truth. And if I don’t tell him, diane’s going to. She came this close to calling him. Thank god I talked her out of it, convinced her that I should be the one to tell him.

Ashley: Well, how incredibly generous of her. She doesn’t want to traumatize her son, so she’ll just leave it to you.

Jack: I am concerned how he’s gonna react, though. But if I tell him, I can warn him about diane, about the dark side of his mother that I tried so hard to keep from him when we all thought she was dead.

Traci: What if he lets her back in his life?

Jack: That’s his prerogative. All I can do is give him the facts, all of the facts. Look, he read about her in

restless style and all the things people said about her. There’s so much more to know. And, look, reading about her behavior and being affected by it is quite a different thing. We all know that.

Billy: Okay, so, you tell him, he’s gonna want to see her. Does that mean she’s coming back to town?

Ashley: No. You can’t let her come back to genoa city, jack. You have to know the ramifications that her presence would have.

Jack: I am well aware of the number of lives that will be impacted by this. Right now, I am concerned about what’s gonna happen to kyle and summer and harrison if diane finds her way back into kyle’s life.

Phyllis: What do you think we ought to do?

Amanda: A spa day. Yes, massages, facials, some time in the sauna. We can have some drinks while we get our nails done.

Phyllis: Okay. That’s tempting.

Amanda: Isn’t it?

Phyllis: Yeah.

Amanda: Come on.

Phyllis: [ Laughs ] I have so much work to catch up on.

Amanda: Okay, phyllis, honestly, were you even expecting to be back today?

Phyllis: No.

Amanda: Okay. So then today is a bonus day. So, if there is nothing urgent, then what better way to pamper yourself after a very long flight than relaxing with your favorite person in the whole wide world?

Phyllis: Okay. Oh, well, if you put it that way, let’s do it. Let’s go.

Amanda: [ Laughs ] Oh, wait. Shoot. Um, do you think we’ll be able to get an appointment?

Phyllis: Oh, I think I can work that out.

Amanda: Yeah?

[ Laughs ]

Phyllis: Uh, if anybody wants me, I’ll be in the spa.

Amanda: Let’s go!

Diane: Hi. I’m taylor jenson. I’m here to check in.

[ Sighs ] I’ll be staying her a while.

Victoria: Ashland?

Ashland: Hello, my darling.

Victoria: You were up and out of the house so early this morning. Is everything alright?

Ashland: I’m fine.

Victoria: I’m surprised you’re here. I just stopped by to tie up some loose ends before our temporary CEO takes over. So, have you had a chance to mull over our next steps? Do you have any plan that you want to share with me yet?

Ashland: Uh…I’ve actually been thinking quite a bit about what to do next. [ Sighs ]

Victoria: And?

Ashland: I’m beginning to have second thoughts.

Victor: Hey. I thought I’d find you here.

[ Door closes ]

Adam: [ Clears throat ] Hey.

Victor: So, any additional evidence that Ashland is moving forward with his plan?

Adam: Not since he broke in and I let him get through my computer’s firewall. There’s no indication he planted any files on my computer. Have you heard anything more from Victoria?

Victor: No. I haven’t.

Adam: Well, then how do we know that the plan is definitely still on? Maybe she called it off.

Victor: No. It is still on.

Adam: Well, then where are we in the scheme of things? Are we in the beginning stages? How much warning am I gonna get when things move along? And what should I be expecting when I get busted for framing Ashland? ‘Cause I have a kid to look out for. What am I supposed to tell Connor? And more importantly, the really big one, is do you honestly believe that this is the smartest move to make?

Sharon: I can just see the wedding invitation now — “Sharon Rosales is honored to invite you to the wedding of her daughter, Mariah Copeland, to the love of her life, Tessa Porter… on Friday the 13th of May. The brides will get married standing under a ladder to thumb their nose at superstition.”

Nick: You know, I was, uh — I don’t know. I thought it was a little weird, the Friday the 13th thing, to start, but I’m coming around to it. It’ll be fun and unique.

Sharon: It’ll definitely give people something to talk about. I’m just glad the wedding isn’t this month.

Nick: I know we don’t have a lot of time, but it’ll all work out.

Sharon: How can you be so calm? I mean, this ’70s theme — that’s — ’70s glam is a lot of work, you know? I know that Noah came up with a beautiful design plan, but now we have to figure out how to build it. They’re talking about doing it in a theater. Those are booked months, if not a year, in advance. Will there be a rehearsal dinner? Hey, you know what we need?

Nick: What?

Sharon: We need to have daily meetings about this from now up until the night of the wedding. That’ll give us a fraction of the amount of time we need to actually do this right. Why did I let Mariah and Tessa go without nailing some of this down?

Victoria: Second thoughts about what? Are you feeling okay? I’m really worried about you after that spell that you had recently.

Ashland: No. Really. I’m fine. I am. And when I — [ Clears throat ] When I said “second thoughts,” I was referring to our trip to Tuscany.

Victoria: Well, you were the one who made the decision to cancel it.

Ashland: I know, and I stand by that decision. It’s definitely the smartest move. It’ll give us time to prove that Adam is the one who’s been setting me up.

Victoria: Then what’s the problem?

Ashland: I was just looking forward to having time alone with you, away from the sneering eyes and the false accusations.

Victoria: Also known as a typical Newman family dinner.

Ashland: [ Laughs ] That’s funny. I imagine growing up with that family you had to develop a complex sense of humor. But you’re not fooling me. I can see the toll this has taken on you.

Victoria: We’ll keep each other strong.

Ashland: Hey, I have the skin of a woolly mammoth.

Victoria: That is not true.

Ashland: [ Laughs ] See, you only say that because you know me better than anyone ever has. Okay. Alright. Yes, this is starting to wear me down a bit. I’m just sorry that we missed the opportunity to, um — to regroup, to reconnect.

Victoria: So true. And Italy is so beautiful this time of year. There’s so much fog. It covers everything like a thick blanket. You can lose yourself.

Ashland: We will get back to Tuscany eventually. But until that day, I…

Victoria: We’ll create an oasis for ourselves and make ourselves untouchable while we find proof that Adam is behind all of this.

Ashland: Once we clear my name… and the truth comes to light.

Victoria: Is there something else that you want to tell me?

Nick: Sharon, if Tessa and Mariah think they can pull the 13th off and it’s the date they really, really want, then we can make it work.

Sharon: Oh. Can we?

Nick: [ Chuckles ] I’m just saying, you got a lot of people around here who are willing to jump in and help.

Sharon: You know what? You’re right. I should give you a to-do list. How about you scour the entire Midwest for authentic ’70s decor? I’m talking wall coverings, chairs that somewhat match with Noah’s design plan, and then accumulate as much of it as you can, like enough to fill a theater.

Nick: Fine. Got it covered. What else you got?

Sharon: Next is — tell me what’s wrong.

Nick: I guess I am, uh, worried about Victoria and Ashland. Uh, Vick says she has a plan to get him out of her life. She finally told us all what it is.

Sharon: Doesn’t sound like you’re too impressed with her plan.

Nick: I just didn’t want to bring it up, you know, while everyone was talking about Mariah’s wedding plans.

Sharon: Oh, the last thing that Mariah and Tessa need to hear about right now is a marriage that was entirely based on a lie.

Nick: Yeah, all the talk about, you know, dresses and venues — it’s a good diversion.

Sharon: But now that everyone’s gone?

Nick: All my questions and concerns and my very strong desire to rip Locke apart have come right back.

Sharon: Would it help you to talk through Victoria’s plan?

Nick: Uh… I really think it’s best if you don’t know what it is. I will say that Victoria’s plan makes her complicit, and I think that crosses a line.

Ashland: If I had known the universe was saving you for me, I would have lived an entirely different life, a life so wholesome that no false accusation against me would ever stick.

Victoria: You know it’s too late for regrets now.

Ashland: You have temporarily sacrificed the job you’ve worked your entire life for to stand by me. I just wish there was some way I could think of to make that up to you.

Victoria: No, I don’t want you to jump through hoops for me.

Ashland: Victoria —

Victoria: This is my choice. I feel very good about it.

Ashland: I never thought I could love anyone as deeply as I love you. And that took me by surprise. I hate the feeling that one day that could all just fall away.

Victoria: It won’t.

Ashland: No, I know. I know. We’ve talked about this before. It’s been on my mind ever since I’ve had to face the possibility that you — you could just walk away from me if you believe those lies.

Victoria: You make it sound like you’re afraid that might actually happen. Are you doubting our plan now?

Ashland: No, I-I believe we can pull it off. The question is, are we going about it the right way?

Victoria: What do you mean?

Ashland: I snuck into Adam’s office while you were talking to your family.

Victoria: You did?

Ashland: I managed to get into his computer. I was looking for evidence that he’s the one who framed me.

Victoria: I didn’t realize you had already done something so bold. What did you find?

Ashland: Nothing that would implicate Adam as the one who’s behind the lies.

Victoria: No, of course not, because Adam is too smart to leave a digital trail on his work laptop. This is personal for him. We have to dig deeper.

Ashland: Yeah, that’s the thing. I’m not sure I want to dig deeper.

Victoria: Will it take more time and extra manpower? Absolutely. I mean, I never said that it was going to be easy, but trust me, we’re gonna uncover Adam’s mistakes. There’s got to be evidence somewhere.

Ashland: When I was in Adam’s office, I heard Adam and Sally’s voice outside the door.

Victoria: Oh, my god. Did they catch you?

Ashland: No. For a minute, I thought they might, but it hit me — I was behaving like some lowlife criminal. And I… I mean, yes, I’ve done things like that in my past, but I put that man behind me when I fell in love with you. And yet there he was, back again, up to his old tricks. And I hate myself for it.

Victoria: Oh, Ashland. I am so sorry.

Ashland: And now I’m realizing that the only way for our plan to work is for us to go further down that path. And I’m afraid it will destroy our love for good.

Victor: I thought we were all on the same page. Are you now questioning the details of Victoria’s plan?

Adam: Am I not allowed to do that? Isn’t this entire thing revolved around me?

Victor: Son, Ashland Locke has taken the bait, okay? He’ll now come up with some proof that you’re out to get him.

Adam: Right, which everyone will believe because, hey, it’s Adam.

Victor: But we all know it’s a charade, okay? He will come up with some evidence that you’re out to destroy him. Then we all say we are sorry, but we ask him for evidence. He will then plant that evidence in your computer.

Adam: And maybe he will figure it out. I mean, the guy has managed to outwit us many of times.

Victor: We will catch him red-handed, which will give me reason to nullify his contract with Newman/Locke, and he’ll be out.

Adam: Yeah. Sounds so simple.

Victor: And Victoria will be free of that man. You will emerge from all of this unscathed. Now, are you having doubts about your role in this whole thing?

Adam: Look, I understand the plan. And I will stick to my role. The black sheep. But I’m just getting a little tired of always having to prove what a team player I am. Hell, it was my idea to improve Victoria’s plan by me staying on as temporary CEO, and then you can pretend to fire me when Ashland plants and then find the evidence. All of this — it sounds great on paper, right? But if you actually think about it, Victoria’s idea is dependent on far too many details. There’s a ton of potential pitfalls, and I just want to make sure that you’ve considered all the flaws.

Victor: Such as?

Adam: First of all, she was inspired by the plan to trick me into publishing disparaging articles about Billy’s drinking and his gambling. It was a scheme so weak that, when she found out about it, she shut it down.

Victor: So what? She may now have come up with a plan that’ll actually work.

Adam: Okay, look, my biggest issue is this entire thing hinges on Ashland planting faked evidence. And I gave him the opportunity to do that, and he didn’t take it. So, possibly he knows that I gave him access to the computer.

Victor: Son, Ashland’s days at our family business are numbered, one way or the other. So, uh, you can stop worrying about Newman/Locke.

Adam: Yeah. Um, well, about that, I think that we should talk about it.

Victor: I give you my word, Adam, that after all this has been said and done, you will return to your position at Newman Media and Victoria will resume the role as sole CEO of Newman Enterprises.

Adam: I will play my part, as agreed.

Victor: Good.

Adam: But I just think you’re putting way too much faith into a half-baked plan that Ashland might already see right through. And if that’s the case, while we’re distracted, thinking that we’ve got everything under control and the plan is working, he’s out there plotting his next move.

Victor: Let him. It’s a chess game. I’m good at it. Very good at it.

Victoria: Nothing about this plan is gonna damage our relationship. The two of us fighting this injustice together — it’s only gonna make us stronger.

Ashland: And I want to believe that, but everything that’s happened, everything that is about to happen could fundamentally change what we have together. Are we about to cross a line to protect our love, only to destroy it in the end?

Victoria: Do you still believe that Adam is the one framing you?

Ashland: Yes, I do. You said it yourself. He’s the most obvious culprit. But we didn’t find any proof.

Victoria: That’s because he’s really good at covering his tracks.

Ashland: Yes, but time is of the essence here, which means we’re going to have to fabricate proof. We are gonna have to plant evidence for this — for this plan to work. Do you understand that? [ Sighs ] So far, we’ve been focused on proving that Adam is the one who’s trying to set me up here, right? But now I’m seeing the bigger picture. Now I’m seeing what has to happen, what we have to do. And I can’t in good conscience ask you to be a part of that.

Victoria: That is not your call.

Ashland: I’m gonna ask you again. Do you understand what we are about to do? We are about to embark on a scheme to defraud, exactly the same thing that your family is accusing me of doing, and that lie almost cost me your trust and your love. Now, as far as I know, unless you’re keeping something from me, you’ve never been an active participant in anything like this.

Victoria: Well, sometimes you have to bend the rules.

Ashland: I’m not talking about business gamesmanship here. This is entirely different.

Victoria: I agreed to stand by while you and my father and Adam decided to turn the tables on Billy.

Ashland: Yes, but you insisted on staying out of that loop. You said no details.

Victoria: Because I didn’t want to get involved.

Ashland: So, why are you willing to do this now?

Sharon: The way you’re talking about Victoria’s plan, it sounds like you’re worried for her safety.

Nick: I am. You know, I’m relieved that she doesn’t seem to be believing any of Ashland’s claims and that she wants to get him out of her life. But a lot could go wrong.

Sharon: He is just despicable. You know, it’s bad enough that he lied about being sick, but then to use a fake diagnosis as a power grab?

Nick: I knew he was trouble from the first moment I met him.

Sharon: Makes me wonder what else he’ll do to get what he wants.

Nick: Every time I think he has sunk as far as humanly possible, he breaks through to a new rock bottom.

Sharon: And there’s no way to convince Victoria to try a different course of action?

Nick: She won’t listen. Ever since she found that Ashland was lying to her, she is determined to handle this on her own. The only saving grace is I know Dad’s security team is keeping a very close eye on her.

Sharon: Well, that doesn’t make me feel any better. It makes me scared that he thinks that necessary. And this could put you in danger, too. There’s no knowing where Ashland’s gonna draw the line if he feels like the entire Newman family’s antagonizing him. Is this an all-out war?

Victoria: Perhaps I would feel different if we were framing an innocent man. But we’re talking about holding someone who is guilty accountable for what he has done, and I am furious with Adam for trying to taint your reputation by concocting this scheme.

Ashland: You’re saying Adam will get what he deserves.

Victoria: Do you know that way before he tried to frame me for switching my father’s medication he conspired with Jack to come up with a fake diary in which my father admitted to murdering a man? That’s what Adam does. He comes up with fake evidence to frame his enemies.

Ashland: But that was the “old Adam,” right?

Victoria: I will never truly believe that Adam has changed.

Ashland: But…

Victoria: But what?

Ashland: But what if we’re wrong? What if, by some gross miscalculation on our part, it turns out Adam is innocent? Are you willing to take that chance for my sake? Are you willing to go that distance with no remorse? Because I couldn’t live with myself if one day you turn around you and regret the decisions you’re making right here, right now in this room, and you resent me for it because I led you down that path. Do you understand that?

Victoria: Where is all this talk coming from? You seemed so sure earlier. You knew that Adam was guilty.

Ashland: Yes. Adam is guilty. But this — this is putting you in an impossible position. Look, I’ve told you before, I kept things about my past from you because I didn’t want to taint what we have together, what we share, but this right here — you will know how low you are sinking. And you’ll tell yourself that you’re doing it for me and that one day you’ll resent it and you’ll blame me, and I will be the man who made you cross that line. Victoria… I love you so much. But I’m afraid. I’m afraid I’m taking you to the point of no return.

[ Liquid pouring ]

Sally: So, how did things go with Victor?

Adam: Oh, he was nice enough to let me know, once Victoria’s plan succeeds, I get to come back to my little job right here.

Sally: After you’ve been the fake fall guy for the family and everyone turns against you?

Adam: Yep.

Sally: But that whole convoluted plan could have never worked without you. So, once you help them rid their company and the town of Locke, they just discard you, even before they see what you’re capable of as CEO? The whole reason that you took the plan in the first place was to prove yourself a better leader.

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Sally: [ Sighs ] I wish I’d been there with you.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Why is that? So he would have two people to ignore?

Sally: No. So I could make sure that he understood your concerns about Victoria’s plan.

Adam: Oh, well, I laid them out for him. We didn’t see eye to eye. Only thing I didn’t point out is that Ashland already has a fall guy. He’s been blaming Dad all along. I mean, why not just finish what Ashland started and let Dad be the bad guy?

Sally: That would have gone over well.

Adam: [ Scoffs ] No, it’s just — it’s abundantly clear why I am the person being thrown under the bus in Victoria’s plan. It just furthers the family view that, uh, I’m the disposable one.

Sally: Victoria might think that, but Victor does not, and Nick is on your side. He said himself that he thinks that you’ve changed. Look, just bide your time. Play along. That way, you have more opportunities to prove yourself. Think about it. In your short time as temporary CEO, you’ve already managed to sell Victor on a bigger and better streaming service.

Adam: Ohh, well, actually, that might have backfired. Since my pitch had creative content, it might have just convinced him that my place is right here at Newman Media.

Sally: Well, it’s not that bad here.

Adam: It is the age-old dynamic. I will never be the kind of heir that Victoria represents.

Victoria: I’m not afraid to cross that line to save you, protecting you and your reputation, and that’s honestly what matters to me the most.

Ashland: Or we could just… walk away.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] You can’t mean that.

Ashland: I do. Why don’t we just go somewhere, start something new?

Victoria: We couldn’t.

Ashland: If you’re that angry at your family for trying to break us up, maybe it’s time for a clean slate.

Victoria: You would really consider doing that, like you did when you buried Bobby DeFranco and reinvented yourself as Ashland Locke? You would just reset everything and start over? I mean, could you really walk away from everything that we’ve created at Newman/Locke?

Ashland: We’ll start a new empire.

Victoria: [ Laughs ] Just like that?

Ashland: You are the only thing that matters to me. Us. Our love. I never believed I could feel this intensely, this profoundly about anything, and I want to protect that. I want to protect you in the best way I can. Just think about it, okay? It could be incredible. Making something of our very own.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Ashland.

Ashland: It’s okay. No, I’m not gonna press you on this. To be continued for now.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ]

Ashland: I think I’m gonna head home for a bit.

Victoria: Are you feeling alright?

Ashland: Yeah. No. I’m fine. I, um… nothing a little rest won’t cure. [ Chuckles ]

Adam: I have tried to be good. I’ve done what I consider to be a monumental job at walking the straight and narrow, um, changing the way that people see me, working on my relationships with my family. I mean, you would think donating a kidney to Faith would persuade everyone once and for all.

Sally: That was very noble of you.

Adam: Then there was Victoria’s wedding. I was the one that got Gaines out of the way. The reason that, uh, she and Locke were even able to get up there and, uh, choke out their vows. So I suppose this is all my fault.

Sally: Mm-hmm. 100%.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] [ Sighs ] I’ve just tried to be the best father that, um, I can be to Connor. [ Clears throat ] I’ve tried to make good choices, be an example, you know, be someone that he can look up to. And Chelsea. Chelsea — I have done right by her.

Sally: You were a lot more forgiving than I would have been under the circumstances.

Adam: I gave her a job. I didn’t fight her for sole custody. And I tried — I tried so hard not to break her heart because that was the right thing to do. The old Adam wouldn’t even know what those words meant.

Sally: You’re turning your life around.

Adam: Well, that’s what I’m saying, is I was finally getting to a place where my family was trusting me again. They were including me, and they were expecting me to show up. I mean, I’d proved to them that I wasn’t like Locke. That I didn’t need to lie and cheat to get the life that I wanted. And how do I get rewarded? As being the fall guy. And then when my services are no longer needed as a punching bag, they can just kick me to the curb? [ Scoffs ] I don’t know. I mean, what is the point in being the good guy if that is how they all still see me?

Nick: It’s just complicated, you know? It’s involving a lot of double and triple cross, a lot of moving parts, some loose cannons.

Sharon: Could one of those be Adam?

Nick: I thought you said you had enough to worry about with Mariah’s Friday the 13th wedding.

Sharon: Uh-oh. Speak of the devil.

Nick: Is it Ashland?

Sharon: He is on his way over here.

Nick: Well, I better go. I don’t think I can control myself around him.

Sharon: Don’t worry. I’ll handle him.

Ashland: Hello, Nick.

Nick: I’ll talk to you later.

Sharon: I’ll see you soon.

Ashland: Well, I’m guessing you’ve been brought up to speed as to why I’ve fallen out of the good graces of the Newman family. What are the chances of my getting a good cup of coffee anyway?

Sally: Being the CEO of Newman Media is not exactly kicked to the curb. You are the head of a major communications company that you have managed to turn into an unmitigated success.

Adam: Mm.

Sally: Congratulations. You shouldn’t give up just because Victor made one of his transparent power moves. He obviously was mad that you were challenging the plan, so he put you in your place by reminding you that he has the power to demote you.

Adam: Yeah. Yeah, I got the message.

Sally: But he also has the power to promote you. So, if you want to be a leader, lead. And don’t look for permission. And also, count yourself lucky for all of the opportunities that you’ve been handed ’cause most people don’t get the millions of chances that you’ve had to reinvent themselves or the resources at their disposal.

Adam: Thank you.

Sally: For what?

Adam: Um…your honesty. And for reminding me that, uh, it’s easy for me to sound like a selfish and insensitive jerk. I know that you’ve had to work a lot harder to get where you are than I have.

Sally: Well, I’ve never fooled myself into believing that the world is fair.

Adam: Mm.

Sally: Besides, from my brief exposure to the Newman family dynamics, you are a saint for what you’ve had to put up with. And I know that you’ve had to jump through hoops of your own to get where you are now.

Adam: So, I’m forgiven for my little pity party?

Sally: Well, you’re lucky that you have me to keep you in line.

Adam: [ Laughs ] Agreed.

Sally: Do me a favor. Please don’t let this get under your skin. You have done a monumental job of turning your life around.

Adam: Mm. I’m just glad you didn’t know the old me.

Sally: Well, the one I’m with now is phenomenal.

Adam: [ Chuckles ]

Sally: And you will get a chance to make your move, and when you do, I know it will be amazing.

Ashland: Huh. I have the feeling that this is gonna be the coldest cup of coffee I’ve ever had.

Sharon: You’re more than welcome to visit a different establishment.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ] And you have the right to refuse service to anyone, so I guess I should be thanking you for not kicking me out.

Sharon: Oh, I, uh — I give the cold shoulder to everyone who lies about having cancer.

Ashland: You know, I heard about your recent health crisis, and I’m really sorry you had to go through that. But for what it’s worth, I am innocent of the claims made against me.

Sharon: I want to give you the benefit of the doubt. I really do. But —

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Nikki: Hey. I saw Ashland leave your office, so I knew the coast was clear. What’s going on? Has something happened?

Victoria: In a way.

Nikki: Well, did he have more fake evidence to use against Adam?

Victoria: No, just the opposite. Ashland is questioning whether we should go through with this plan to blame Adam.

Nikki: Oh, really? And why is that? Does he think it might backfire?

Victoria: No, it’s bigger than that. He claims that he doesn’t want to force me to cross the line and get my hands dirty.

Nikki: Wow. That’s the last thing I would have expected.

Victoria: Ashland has dropped this charade that there’s proof that Adam is behind everything, and now he says that he’s going to have to plant it. And he doesn’t want to drag me down into it. I had to practically beg him to frame Adam so that Ashland would still believe that I’m on his side.

Nikki: Oh, my god. I cannot believe how manipulative he is. He wants you to think that he actually loves you and that he suddenly has a conscience? He’s despicable. Victoria, what are you thinking?

Victoria: In all the time I’ve known him, he’s never sounded so sincere.

Sharon: Your coffee. May you drink it in good health. You know, when I was sick, I found that green tea — oh. What am I talking about? Barking up the wrong tree.

Ashland: I was really hoping you would give me the benefit of the doubt, but, uh… well, I fully intend to exonerate myself.

Sharon: And bring the real criminal to light. Well, I won’t hold my breath. Excuse me. I have some to take care of.

Ashland: Of course.

Sally: Um… do you want to leave?

Adam: Actually, um, give me a moment with Ashland. I’ve got an idea.

Sally: Be careful.

Adam: [ Clears throat ] Ashland.

Ashland: Oh, look at that. It’s the new pretend CEO. Uh, let me give you two pieces of advice. Uh, don’t spend too much time on projects that won’t come to fruition, and don’t get too comfortable. The, uh — the title, the power — it’s all gonna be gone in a flash. Excuse me.

Adam: Well, hey, don’t leave yet. I’m here to make a deal.

Nikki: Ashland is a liar, a con man. That’s what he does. And he’s damn good at it. He has been working us from day one, until we learned the truth.

Victoria: I think there’s more to this.

Nikki: Honey, don’t fool yourself. He knows his days are numbered, and he’s looking for a clean exit. Or maybe he’s figured out what we are planning and he wants to get away before we can pull it off.

Victoria: He said that we should escape.

Nikki: What are you talking about?

Victoria: He asked me if I would be willing to walk away from you all and the company and go somewhere and start fresh.

Nikki: Oh, yeah, as if either one of you would walk away from your companies. I think he has grown suspicious and he is testing you. Sweetheart, after everything that’s happened, everything that we know, don’t tell me that you were tempted to run away with him. Victoria?

Ashland: I thought I made it clear when we spoke earlier that I’m not interested in making any deals.

Adam: Well, this one is different. This offer comes without any threats.

Ashland: I see. And by whose authority do you make this offer?

Adam: Mine. I am representing the Newman family. Now, we are prepared to give you $500 million to walk away.

Ashland: “Walk away.”

Adam: Well, start over somewhere else, which seems to be one of your greatest talents. You leave Newman/Locke. You leave Victoria today.

Nick: Why is everyone so upset? Has Victoria’s plan hit a snag?

Nikki: Well, now Ashland seems to be conflicted about framing Adam.

Nick: Well, honestly, so am I, Vick. Uh, I hate to say it, but I never, ever liked your plan. It forces you to cross a line that I’m not comfortable with.

Victoria: That’s funny because Ashland shares that sentiment. He told me earlier that he doesn’t want to drag me to the point of no return.

Nick: Well, it looks like Ashland and I finally agree about something.

Victoria: I disagree. I’m not selling my soul to oust my husband. I’m just allowing him to perpetuate the crime of coming up with false evidence to frame Adam. It’s still the strongest plan that we have.

Nikki: Well, the only problem now is that Ashland is having second thoughts. Has what Ashland said made you question your decision? Victoria, after everything that has happened, despite everything, is there still a part of you that is in love with him?
