[ Sighs ] Well, I can see where I went wrong when I was planning the elq/aurora merger. And how valentin was able to get around you. I was just seeing what I wanted to see, you know?

[ Sighs ] I just — my whole plan hinged on ned reacting exactly the way that I wanted him to. I truly believed that he would put his own selfish interests aside for the good of the family, whereas valentin… valentin was a realist, and he met ned where he was, and he gave him what he really wanted. Very clear-eyed assessment. Mm. I think it’s important to look at what happened so you can avoid it in the future. But I will say that I am reframing this. This was not a failure. This was just a setback. Good. That sounds positive. I’m determined to come back stronger, and so will aurora. Telling you, valentin better watch his back. Uh, okay. So, I’m — I’m glad you came by, because, you know, we really haven’t had a conversation since the last time we had one at the metro court pool. Oh. When you said that, um, our relationship will never just be about the two of us, that carly will always have a part in our lives — that conversation? I bel– nina, I believe that, and I can live with that because you’re worth it to me. But what you didn’t say to me is — are — am I worth it to you? [ Scoffs ] I think the more important question is, do you? I just finished reading a very interesting article about the toll excessive litigation is taking on our legal system. Now, I’m sure you would agree with me that it’s in everyone’s best interests for nonviolent offenders to pay a fine rather than serve a — a costly prison sentence. Yes. Well, of course my great-nephew falls into that category. But as you will remember, spencer went straight back to spring ridge the minute he had finished paying his respects to his late departed mother at her gravesite. Well, I’m sorry that you feel that way, governor. That’s obviously a difference in opinion we have, which means that I may have to rethink my rather generous donation I was planning to give to your re-election campaign. Well, why don’t you do that? [ Sighs ] The point is, I hoped everyone would be so relieved that esme was gone that no one would question her departure or expend much energy trying to find her, but spencer insists on finding her. Yeah. I mean, look, something went on when he was away from port charles. And I don’t know what it was. So does that really matter? Well, you do enjoy spending time with him. Yes, I do. [ Laughs ] Yeah. Ah. I don’t know. Maybe mystery is really just part of the package. Or… I could be looking for an excuse not to get closer to him because, you know, my break-up with finn was just so unbearable to me that I don’t want to hurt myself again. Do you want an excuse to dump valentin? I don’ t know. I mean, I’ve –I’ve really thought about that. But, no, I-I-I want him in my life. I do. I should just look past all these unanswered questions. Right? Ava, if people are searching for esme, you and I have to stick together. One has nothing to do with the other. W-we don’t even know if esme is dead or alive. No one has seen or heard from her since she fell off the parapet. To me, that means she is dead. It is only a matter of time before her body is found. And if you admit to knowing that esme and I slept together, that gives you motive to have pushed her to her death. So you think the safest thing to do then is to pretend that our marriage is okay?

Because I don’t think he was too shy about encouraging britt to start dating again and get back on the horse. What better person to do that with than the horse expert himself, cody? [ Chuckles ] You are as perceptive as you are dedicated. Um, the truth is, we’ve had a member of the household at wyndemere go missing. She left the island last night, and nobody’s heard from her, and she’s been rather troubled. So we’re all a little bit concerned. I’m sorry to hear about that, but [Scoffs] I don’t know how I can help you. Well, if she had been in some kind of accident, then sh-she probably would have been brought here, right? Well, I can check recent admissions.

[ Breathes sharply ] Last night, you said? Yes, that’s right. Thank you. I just hate to think of the poor girl lying helpless in the er. Or, worse, the morgue.

I really should get back to work, dad. I don’t want phyllis to think that I’m slacking. In other words, you don’t want to talk about nina. Look, I’m — I’m not here to ask for your blessing. I know that she hurt our family, and — and I’m not — I’m not saying you should be okay with that. Good, because you’re right. I’m not okay with it. Losing you was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to face. And losing morgan still causes me grief. He was my little brother, but he wasn’t my dad. And when you came home, it was nothing short of a miracle. That is, until we realized that nina could have spared us all six months of pain and suffering. Nobody knows that better than I do. [ Sighs ] But who am i to throw stones? I’ve made some bad calls. I’ve done some things that I wish I could take back. So… I’m not judging nina or you. You know, your respect… and opinion really, really matters to me. You have that. But it seems to me you’re avoiding the real question here — does nina matter to you? The idea of carly bouncing yet another grandchild on her knee when I can’t even see wiley just — it triggered something inside of me. You know what? I am going to go after what I want, and I’m not gonna feel bad about it. And anyone who has a problem with it, too bad for them. That’s the spirit. Now there’s nothing to keep you and sonny apart. Or is there? Well, sonny made it very clear that carly was always going to be in our lives. She is going to be the third person at our table for two. And he claims that he’s found some kind of peace with that. And unless I do the same, then — sonny is damn lucky to have you in his life. It’s up to him to tell carly to find her own table for one. And if he can’t or won’t do that, you need to walk away right now. If you’re so worried about me dating cody because you have inside information, I’m entitled to know about it.

[ Chuckling ] I thought my ears were burning. Ohh. Is there a problem? You tell me. Spinelli’s warning me away from you. It’s for her own good. Look, man, I know you’re friends with sam and dante, but, uh, what did I ever do to you? As if you didn’t know. Alright. I mean, if that’s how you’re gonna play it, might as well put our cards on the table, tell britt what’s really going on. Sam: You know what? Things have never been better with dante and me. Are you guys getting someplace new? Stop, stop, stop, stop. Please slow down. It — it was just an idea. It just was — we haven’t brought it up to the kids yet. And what about the time when he and sasha pretended to have an affair to push michael and willow together to prevent nelle from getting custody of wiley? You’re proving my point exactly, brook lynn. Chase sacrificed himself for the greater good. He — he punched valentin in the face to defend you. Now he’s derailed his career by doing the same thing to linc. Look, I don’t need you to remind me of all the ways I owe chase.

[ Sighs ] Okay? Why do you think I’m — I’m trying to help him with his music career? To pay him back. Look, if you don’t believe me, that’s your problem, okay, not mine. Chase: Look, you’ve got it all wrong. Brook lynn is way too smart to mix business with romance.

Nurse tait, do you have the file I requested? Yes. I got your message. Oh. I hope you consider it a positive sign that nothing bad has happened to the young woman who vanished from wyndemere. Nina matters to me. We were on the verge of seeing where that was going to take us. And then we had to come to the reality that what we had in nixon falls isn’t what we have in port charles. It was like we were — we were in our own little bubble out there. But that’s the thing, dad. You weren’t alone there, either. You just didn’t know it. But nina did. Fair enough, but carly isn’t going anywhere. She’s donna’s mother, and, uh, she’s going to be part of my life forever. And I-I-I can face that reality. I don’t know if nina can. I still feel horrible about the role that I played in your divorce. I was the one that convinced you that carly wasn’t going to show up to the haunted star that night. If I had just kept my mouth shut, then you wouldn’t have given up on her so early and turned to nina. A-and maybe you and carly would still be married. Listen, listen to me. You got to understand something, okay? I-I did everything I could to go after carly. You can’t blame yourself at all. We make choices. We have to live by them. All I want is for you to be happy. It would be a shame for you to come back to us and not grab life with both hands and make the most of it. And if that means nina for you, then so be it. Nina: I’m being realistic. Donna — she’s not even in kindergarten yet. Sonny and carly are going to be co-parents forever and ever. You know, I didn’t want to buy the metro court. I didn’T. I bought it so I could give it back to carly. She refused it, so I kept it for myself, even though I knew this was one more reason for her to keep a target on my back.

[ Sighs lightly ] You know, when sonny and I, we were in nixon falls, things were a lot easier. We were isolated. There weren’t all these people and problems coming in between us. But I still see that man. I still see that man that I fell for. That man that I wanted in the worst way.

[ Breathes deeply ] That was then. But knowing what you know now, do you still want sonny? Britt: Well, don’t keep me in suspense. What do you two know that I don’t? Isn’t it obvious? Wait. What’s obvious? Well, it’s no use, my friend. They’re gonna find out sooner or later.

[ Sighs ] Mr. Spinelli here does not want us to be a match. Why is that? Because… he wants you all to himself.

[ Scoffs ] If you mean what you say, you’ll leave chase out of whatever revenge scheme you’ve got planned for linc. Chase deserves better. This is how I’m gonna turn you into a star. First, we’re gonna book a studio and record you singing one of brook lynn’s songs. We’ll make that your signature song, and then we’ll promote the hell out of it all over social media. You’ll sing at the savoy to season yourself as a performer and build anticipation for your big splash at the mercury lounge.

[ Footsteps approaching ] And then — I’ve been thinking. Maybe we should just call off this competition. Well, if my father was convicted of jury tampering, I mean [Sighs] He’d only have himself to blame. All you’d have to do is find a third party to tip off the judge who’s waiting for the jury to come back with the verdict. Yeah.

[ Sighs ] Look, you’re going to get that bonus, okay? You’ve earned it. But, no, I can’t tip off the authorities to what sonny did. Willow, I-I don’t want to pry, but are you sure you’re alright?

[ Clears throat ] Just a touch of morning sickness. But you know how that goes. Once you’re through the first trimester… you’re pregnant. Either that or I’m developing a strange craving for pickles and pancakes.

[ Laughs ]

[ Chuckles ] That’s wonderful news. Yeah. I’m sure that avery and carly, michael — everybody must be so thrilled. Yeah, this baby is a gift for the entire family.

[ Crying ] Which makes me the happiest person in the whole world. Oh! Oh! Oh, willow.

[ Sobbing ] Is there — is there something going on? Beyond the baby?

I don’t understand. I just gave you the perfect opportunity to nail your old man. But you refuse to pull the trigger? Why? I want to take sonny down, but not at trina’s expense. What’s the big deal? The judge orders a new trial and trina gets another day in court. And put trina through the stress of another trial and her family? Not to mention my sister josslyn is also a victim here. Look… and maybe the jury was ready to acquit anyway. A-and what if they’re ready to convict? This way, trina gets another chance, and sonny goes directly to prison. Look, I told you, you’re gonna get your bonus. I’m not gonna risk this. Whatever. It’s your call. Hey, dex. Wait. Yeah? Look, there’s a silver lining in all this. You proved yourself to my dad. [ Both laugh ] Mm. What — what — what did I do to earn this kind of… love and loyalty? You mean besides being loving and loyal to me? And not only with the dawn of day thing, but you didn’t judge me about parker. I mean, you were upset when I tried to bribe my professor and got kicked out of wesleyan. But you didn’t judge me when you learned that parker was a woman. I know that I can always count on you to be there for me, no matter how hard I’ve tried to push you away. [ Breathes sharply ] Yes, I do. Probably more than ever. It’s nice to see you this happy.

[ Chuckles ] But still, be careful. Wanting sonny and having him all to yourself are not the same thing. The man has five children. Not to mention sonny’s ex is never really an ex. Sonny and carly have split up more times than I can count, and they always get back together. If their pattern is consistent, they could get back together. And then where will you be? Thank you. I wouldn’t worry too much about spinelli. Yeah, you and I have been friends with him for a long time, so we’ll take care of him. But you — you focus on cody. I just think that if you’re going to give him a chance, you should do that, or else, you know, kick that cowboy to the curb. You got yourself into this mess. The way I see it, there are only two ways out. I’m pretty sure I don’t want to hear what they are. Option one — you come clean with britt and get ready for society setups to go belly-up when the feds investigate all of those violations of privacy and security breaches. And the other option? Make everyone believe my cover story. You need to convince everyone that you’re crushing on britt. Isn’t it obvious? Our plan must be working. You just said you wanted to cancel the competition. Yeah, not now. Look, linc is getting desperate. If he thinks I just want to jump into bed with you, that’s ludicrous. He must be feeling threatened. So we just continue as planned? [ Door opens ] He’ll help our girl, for sure. Whew. How’s sasha? Ah, well, uh, she’s just great. And why shouldn’t she be? She’s only facing charges of reckless endangerment, disturbing the peace, willful destruction of property, both public and private, and, uh…

[Breathes sharply] Oh, yeah — attempted murder. You’re early. Yeah, only by a few minutes. I’m eager to hear the feedback on the op-ed I wrote. And so you shall. I promised to be honest. Well, don’t keep me in suspense. Who came out on top in our little wager? You tell me. Sam: Hey. Spinelli: Oh, hey. Thank you for agreeing to meet me here. Of course. I’m at your service. Mm.

I mean, the new member appointed by the public advocate is making a point of throwing the book at cops who step out of line, regardless of their exemplary record. So, that’s it. I’m no longer a cop. And we need to engender empathy for sasha that maintains her position here and hopefully placates the board of directors. Yeah, we need to come up with a strategy to shield deception from liability while not abandoning one of our partners. Right. So, where do we start? Okay, let’s get the ball rolling. [ Sighing ] Oh, honey. How are you holding up? This reader said, “professor chase’s opinion piece is a complaint in search of a cause.” Ah. But if you scroll up, you’ll see that “cronkite’s ghost” says that my op-ed “eloquently illuminates the necessity of objectivity.”

[ Chuckling ] Cronkite’s ghost? Mm-hmm. You know, they say the handle says a lot about a person. I’m getting “pompous blowhard.” Are you ascribing that characterization to me? No.

[ Chuckling ] Of course not. Oh, here’s one. “Newshound86” thinks that your op-ed piece is “a dumpster fire.” How constructive. And poetic. Ah, this

one just wants meto put back in the horoscopes. Well, I’d argue that astrology is objective, so mark that one in my favor. Alright, by a slim margin, it appears that the readers approve of your point of view. So, cue the gloating. What? Me, gloat? Nah. It’s enough that I’m feeling validated that my so-called “antiquated notions” have merit. Thanks for following up. Deal’s a deal. Speaking of which, I believe our deal was that if I won, you’d take more of my input on board. Why are the hairs on the back of my neck on end? Cue the smirk.

[ Chuckles ] Yeah, you haven’t been shy about your disapproval. And…here you are. Haven’t we played this scene before? Yes. Yes, we have. But we keep screwing up the finale. Uh, what do you mean by “we”? Well, I can admit that I don’t always say the right things. Oh, are — were you expecting me to — to say something to the contrary? [ Clears throat ] Just don’t let this punk bait you. Alright, so, you gave me 30 days to show you what I can do. It hasn’t even been a week, and I’ve already booked you a gig at the savoy. What has brook lynn done for you lately? Uh, could you read that last part back? “Together, we pledge to stand up for the deception family by breaking the stigma of mental health challenges and ensuring our partners and their families receive all the help they need. Therefore, deception will make a $1 million donation to various organizations that help families with mental illness.” Sounds good. Uh, just change “the” deception family to “our” deception family, and I think that’s our press release. I agree. Sasha’s arrest was definitely a cry for help. Hopefully, framing it this way will inspire compassion. Haters be damned. Okay, let me make this change. I’m going to email it to myself, and I will take it to pr when I get back to my desk. Okay. [ Sighs ] Which means we have some very tough decisions to make. How tough? You are not going to like what I have to say. I am sorry about that. I had a call into the da’s office and my contact got back to me. I wanted to run something by him. Something about sasha?

[ Sighs ] Brando, you got to understand some things. Sounds serious. Well, in the first place, I’m sorry I rattled those charges off at you like that earlier. I wasn’t trying to be flippant. Sometimes I’m a little punchy in the morning when I haven’t slept. But I swear to you, I’m taking this case seriously. As a matter of fact, I want you to know I’m looking at every possibility to help your wife. All of them. Thanks. Were you being punchy when you said that we can’t beat these charges? Some of the charges, I believe, can be thrown out or restitution can be made. But others, there’s just no way. We’ve got to contend with a very damning video.

[ Sighs ] A video in which sasha just isn’t out of control — she looks outright violent. No, those assault charges, they’re going to be tough to beat. Yeah, but you’re going to try, right? I mean, we will do whatever you want us to do. Well, that’s the trick, isn’t it? I believe you will. But I’m not convinced the same thing could be said of your wife. Oh, ah, ah — you’re still a little smudged, sweetheart. I’m just trying to help.

[ Sighs ] Thanks, gladys, but nobody can help. Oh, that’s not true. You got a whole army behind you. Maxie’s been blowing up my phone. I just haven’t had time to get back to her. I-I’m sure she and lucy want to come and visit you.

I believe sasha gilmore recently attacked the vehicle of one of your reporters. Smoltz is a freelancer. Whatever his role at the invader, I’m surprised there’s been no mention of the incident in your paper. Why is that? Because the — the story is still evolving, and we’ll cover it when we know more. Unless, of course, you’d like me to report the salacious account of a spokesmodel having a nervous breakdown. That’s a narrow way of looking at it. And your way? The facts. A reporter — one affiliated with your paper — was attacked while doing his job. Maybe we should consider… finding a new face of deception. Are — are you talking about pushing sasha out? No, no. A-absolutely not. No. She’s our partner. She always will be. I’m just saying that, you know, m-maybe she should step aside as spokesperson just for a while. Take a sabbatical or something. After everything sasha has lost, you want to strip her of more? Look — look, this is hard to say and hard for you to hear, but I’m just trying to tell you — look at this. Look at everything we’ve built. Look at all this company means. All the money, everything is tied up in its stock value. And if it goes belly up, it’s brokesville again. We will have absolutely nothing. I know sasha wouldn’t want that. Do you? Look, sasha is our friend. Always. This — this is just business. Okay, lucy. Then, as the head of this business, you can tell her. Can’t the court just ask you to pay for the damage to that reporter’s car? You’re sure as hell good for it. Smoltz deserved it. So did sienna. Pretending to be my friend when all along she was just trying to ply me with more drugs so that she could stab me in the back! I’m so sick of them. I’m so tired of being exploited. Of course you are. But aren’t you also tired of feeling out of control? Brando, I don’t know what the hell’s going on or why. We simply don’t have time to figure it out. But for some reason, your wife has completely shut down. Every answer she gave me was monosyllabic, if she answered me at all. I mean, sasha’s in shock. A-and spending the night in jail, that hadn’t helped it all. And I will definitely ask the court to take that into consideration, but that’s not the only issue at play, is it? I was up most of the night going over the evidence from this case and trying to wrap my head around recent events, and I don’t have to tell you it doesn’t look good. On. She caused a fatal car accident — she didn’t cause that. Okay? Harmony ran out in front of her. Even so, my point is, with sasha these days, it’s one thing after another. It’s just something else in a long line of bad looks. And now, worst of all, if we’re talking about optics. She’s either in complete denial or she’s intentionally avoiding the help she desperately needs. I

am too hard on people.I always have been. You think you miss out on getting to know folks? Probably. You know what’s kind of worse, is they end up missing out on getting to know you.

[ Scoffs ] Okay. This is sliding into the sappy zone.

[ Chuckles ] What you don’t understand is that I don’t really like people all that much, so it’s no great loss. Mm, bull. Alright, I’ve seen how you and your buddy brad get on. When you’re not scolding him.

It’s kind of hard to have a serious conversation with a floatie between us. Oh, yeah.

[ Grunts ]

[ Sighs ] Well, it’s good to see that unemployment has paid off with some more time at the gym. When I’m through marketing with you, our key demo is either going to want be you or be with you. Chase isn’t just a piece of meat. He’s an artist. A talented, beautiful artist.

he’s got talent, okay? And — and smarts. And heart. Sure, sure. He’s the total package. But I guarantee you his fans will be more interested in his eyes than his iq. My development team has put together a promotional plan for you. And I’ve booked studio time for us to start laying down tracks with top writers and producers like k-fed car, stevie bananas, and topher ve. After your gig at the savoy, then we’ll focus on the mercury lounge. At both gigs, your concertgoers will be able to stream and share your ep, but we’ll be able to sell a ton of merch at the mercury lounge. Either way, it’s instant revenue for you. I actually could use the money. Wait. Hold on a minute. How much is this studio time? What are we talking here? Right, that — that does sound expensive. Oh, you bet it is. But not for you. [ Chuckles lightly ] Don’t — don’t you — don’t you want to move in with dante? I just think things are really, really good the way they are. Why change it? [ Spinelli sighs ] I guess I don’t have to apologize to britt for missing our brunch. Looks like I gave true love an assist. Why are you so certain that he’s right for her? Because I trust society setups. And I’ve spent some time with him. He’s a sweet guy. Yeah, I happen to agree. You both couldn’t be more wrong. Not everyone sees things through the lens of a journalism professor. I’m also a citizen. It concerns me whenever freedom of the press is constrained by threats or violence. I agree. But you don’t know smoltz. His tactics are less than savory. And I wouldn’t put it past him if he goaded sasha into a reaction, hoping to provoke just what he got. So, I wouldn’t hang the shingle of the first amendment rights on this one if I were you. I’d like to invite you to one of my pcu lectures. You’re lecturing? Pcu wooed me out of retirement and convinced me to teach a course. I think you’d get a lot out of it. Really? Mm. I’m pretty sure that I have argued first amendment rights in a court of law a lot more than you’ve ever lectured about it in a classroom. Then you undoubtedly know that the character of the victim does not preclude the reporting of the crime. Mr. Smoltz may not be the kind of reporter that you respect, but he was the target of violence, which makes it at least worthy of your attention, and in my learned opinion, most definitely newsworthy. Sasha: You think I’m out of control? Don’t you?

[ Sighs ] Lately, you’re not the sasha I’ve come to know and love. Love? You didn’t even want me to marry your son. No, I didn’T. Not then. Not at the time. For a few reasons, I… it seemed like you were rushing, for one thing, and I didn’t like being excluded. But once I saw how much you really loved brando and how happy you make him and how kind and smart you are…

[ Breathes sharply ] …I’ve been proud to call you my daughter-in-law. A-and I’ve done what I could to protect you. I… thought you knew that. Brando: You think I give a damn about optics? I care about sasha. I care about what you can do for her. You need to care about all of it, just like I do. Because sasha’s drawn the attention of the internet. She’s gone viral. And given the political nature of recent events involving our mayor, the da’s office is determined not to do anything to give off the appearance of favoritism because of sasha’s celebrity. Optics. Translation — don’t expect any kind of preferential treatment, because they’re in no position to cut her a break. What can we do? You motivate your wife to take a more active part in her own defense. I agree she needs help. She needs a psych consult. I don’t even know if she’d be receptive to the idea. Most of all, she needs to demonstrate her commitment to intensive therapy and restitution. Look, I-I-I don’t know I-if sasha… I don’t know if she’s ready to confront this. And that severely limits our options. ‘Cause to tell you the truth, I can only think of one other way to keep your wife out of prison.

[ Sighs ] Okay. It’s official. I’ve been stood up. I’m going to the pool. I would ask to join you, but you’ll just tell me that I’m pushing it. Maybe you are getting to know me. Don’t go pricing wedding venues. Okay. What sasha did to smoltz is news… regardless of extenuating circumstances. But is it newsworthy? That sounds like leftover lawyer-speak. No, that’s human-speak. Because I’m a human being. You know who else is a human being? Sasha gilmore. One that you know personally. Could that be occluding your view? I barely even know her. But I’m looking at the big picture. And — and given the impact of social media and — and all the various virtu– virtual platforms… I mean, in contemporary journalism, that’s something that has to be taken very seriously. Then, by all means, put the truth out there. You know what cronkite said about the truth? That, in seeking the truth, you need to be able to look at both sides of the story. So, if we just tell the facts about what happened to sasha, it’s a disservice to her and to our readers. Don’t tell me you have alternative facts. I have context. In the span of a year, sasha has overdosed, she’s gotten clean, she’s fallen in love, she’s lost a child, she’s gotten into a fatal car crash, she’s relapsed, and she is still struggling with her mental health. So, if we omit all of that and just print that she attacked a car with a valet sign, that’s not showing respect to the fourth estate. It’s character assassination disguised as journalism. Now, I know I could cut a deal with the da’s office predicated on the promise that ms. Gilmore stay out of trouble moving forward.

[ Chuckling ] I don’t think that we can guarantee that. In her current state, you’re not confident? You better be, ’cause if she accepts that deal and breaks her promise, she will be remanded to prison. Now, like I said, there might be one other way…

[ Sighs ] …If you’re prepared for it. Something that would make the da accept this deal? You know what a guardianship is? It’s like a conservatorship, right? Exactly. Those terms are used interchangeably. In new york state, the guardianship system is utilized when an adult is considered legally…incapacitated. Uh. You — you want us to legally claim that sasha is incapable of taking care of herself? What happened during her last therapy appointment? She didn’t make it. Mm. Would you say your wife’s mental condition leaves her less able to manage things — her health and financial affairs? Um… I-I-I don’t know about this. Brando, just take it easy, okay? We’re not talking about tossing sasha into some 19th-century house of hysteria. This is simply a strategy. It’s a way to keep her at home and out of prison. It’s just… we just appoint someone, a guardian, who can watch out for her well-being, make sure she gets to appointments on time, and safeguard her finances. It doesn’t have to be forever. It seems extreme. It’s your call. But given sasha’s state of mind, is she really ready for a trial? I don’t think it would go well for her. Do you? Sasha: I’m tired. I know. But we are all doing our best to help you. I can’t read your mind. But I’ll tell you what’s on mine. You are my family now, sasha. That means I will do whatever it takes to look out for you. Chase, I can offer you me. Linc: What is this, a double standard? Ugh, get your head out of the gutter, if that’s at all possible. Look, linc only thinks of you as a performer. [ Knock on door ] Come in. Said you had a job for me. That was a bust. You think? You’re obsessed with true crime. At least I tried. So pay up. Dream on. You succeed, you get paid. You want me to try again? That gilmore girl is obviously on edge. The tiniest thing could push her over.

Tj: The whole point of a medically induced coma is to give the patient’s body time to heal. Bringing out a patient too fast, it’s inadvisable and carries serious risk. Okay, so on a scale of 1 to 10, how dangerous is it? Dr. Robinson, hey. You two are looking so serious. Well, we were just talking about trina’s trial. How did everything go in court today? Oh, well, it was one surprise after another. Good surprises or bad ones? Dante: Commissioner. What’s up, detective? I just wanted to thank you again for considering me for operation running circles. Then what’d he do to get on your list? So, diane surprised everyone and called spencer for the defense. And he testified that he was with trina when the video got released. Actually, he went a step further to say that he thought esme was the one to record us. Oh, my gosh. Spencer finally saw the light? It’s about time. That’s the thing. Apparently, spencer saw the light this whole time. What are you talking about? Spencer was only pretending to support esme while he tried to find evidence that esme set trina up. And let me guess — that didn’t really work? I mean, of course it didn’t work. There’s a thousand ways that that could go wrong. But the point is, spencer didn’t want to tell anybody ’cause he didn’t want it getting back to esme. Well, I’m sure he didn’t want esme leaving town. Yeah, but he told cam. Not at the very beginning, but close enough. And cam kept it from you. Yes. And I knew that something was off. And I asked cam over and over again if there was something wrong, something he wasn’t telling me. But he had an excuse every time and it seemed reasonable. But I knew that something was going on. I mean, things were just…different between us. And now I know why. What’s on your mind, dante? I’ve just been thinking about next steps lately. I-I, you know, want to grow in my job and move on to bigger roles within the department. I admire your ambition. Even though it’s counterintuitive, considering I turned down the last assignment. I just, I couldn’t do that to rocco. I couldn’t leave him again and upend his life like that. So, for the time being, I-I have to focus on assignments that are closer to home. And you’re worried it could derail your advancement? Yeah. Will it? I don’t see why. You’re speaking to a fellow single parent here. Yeah. I understand the sacrifices and tough decisions you have to make. And I respect your choice to stay local. But you chose differently, right? In a completely different situation. My decision to go undercover… there were men out there who were legitimately dangerous, who I knew, if put away, would result in a safer world for my son. Did I miss out on time with tj? Yeah. A lot of it. And we weathered some rough patches because of that. Seems like he’s doing pretty good now. He’s thriving. We’re close again, and I am so grateful. But if I could go back… I don’t know, dante. I’m honestly not sure what I would choose. Apparently spencer had an attack of conscience, because all of a sudden, diane changed her strategy and called spencer as a witness. For the defense? Yes. How’d that go? Well, spencer testified that he was with trina at the time the video was being sent out. W– a-a-at spring ridge? Why didn’t trina say so? See, the thing is, he wasn’t at spring ridge. Apparently, he broke out to go visit his mother’s grave. Okay. So let me get this straight. Trina ran into spencer at the cemetery. Mm-hmm. And trina kept it quiet because she didn’t want to get spencer in any trouble. T-that was months ago. So — so spencer committed a major infraction, gets away with it, and then confesses to it in the courtroom? It sounds like he went out on a limb for — for trina. Yeah. Yeah. I-I mean, I guess. But I’m just having a hard time believing that trina would keep this a secret for months now. I mean, if she would’ve just said something, said something sooner, I-I — you know [Grunts] There’s no point. There’s no point in thinking about the what-ifs. So — so was, uh, spencer’s testimony, was that a major blow for the prosecution? Not really. The ada poked holes all through the alibi. I mean, she really believes that trina is guilty. Even though spencer testified he believes esme’s the one that did it. As did josslyn, as did cameron. Can somebody please tell me how this girl is not being investigated? Please. Jordan is trying to connect esme to the bartender right now. Well, what’s the status with that? And what about the bartender? Is he any closer to waking up, or what?

[ Screaming ] Gilmore, what are you’re doing?! I’m out of here.

[ Screaming continues ] Sasha! Sasha, what are you doing?! Sasha, stop!

The way I understand it, um… oz haggerty’s doctors are in the process of bringing oz out of a medically induced coma as we speak. I know it could take a while before he wakes up. We don’t have a while. Jury deliberation starts tomorrow. And if my baby girl has to spend one second in prison… a conviction is gonna be set in place. There’s no guarantee it’s gonna be overturned by an appeal. We’re gonna be at the mercy of whatever judge happens to be assigned to that case. Okay. Look, look, look, baby. I know, okay? You’re right. Hands down, the best thing for trina is for that bartender to testify before the jury makes their verdict. Wow. So our best hope is lying in a coma. And our next alternative is wrangling the truth out of that conniving little snake esme. Is that what you’re telling me? There has to be some other way. There has to be something. T-there is. There has to be something that we haven’t thought of, something that we haven’t explored. Right? Portia: Okay. Okay, that’s it. I mean, there’s obviously something going on here. I-I really don’t have the patience or energy to guess. Tell me what it is. It’s not just that cam lied. I mean, it bothers me, of course, but if the positions were reversed, I can see a situation where I would keep trina’s confidence if she asked me. Right. But that’s not what happened here. No, it’s not. What spencer did, going rogue and trying to bring esme down by himself and — and making trina think that he’s turned against her — I mean, it’s immature. And the fact that cam went along with it, I-it’s childish. It is. I mean, we’re not playing a video game here. This is trina’s entire life. Absolutely. And spencer knew that it was esme the whole time? He stayed silent? It’s dumb.

[ Scoffs ] Yeah. It’s not the smartest way to go about it. Oh, I don’t know why I’m surprised. I mean, spencer has always had to be the star of his own drama. It’s been like that since we were kids. Well, I mean, he’s grown up a bit since. Not enough. Spencer’s big plan? I mean, this never had a chance of succeeding. And I don’t know, I guess I’m just shocked that cam couldn’t see that. He’s known spencer as long as I have. Is he really that clueless? You know what? You’re gonna have to be real intentional about your own feelings. You know yourself. You trust your instincts. You knew something was off with cameron, and you were right. Just like you knew something was off with sonny. This guy must have done something to get on your bad side if you’re siccing me on him. He’s a jury foreman on a trial I’m interested in, and I need you to have a conversation with him. Let him know the outcome I want. Which is trina robinson goes free. I don’t care what the jury thinks. I don’t care if it’s a hung jury. I do not want trina going to prison. Beckett has family members that are — have health issues. Maybe — maybe he needs a hand in, you know, medical bills. I’ll make it clear what he stands to gain by cooperating. If he refuses? Then you make it clear what he stands to lose. [ Siren wailing ] Spill. What tricks you got up your sleeves? Not tricks… an option. A potentially dangerous option. But if it’s trina’s only hope… I think it’s worth pursuing. What is it? But we can speed up the process by giving him a large dose of flumazenil and naloxone to quickly reverse the effects of the drugs he’s on. Once he wakes up, we can get him to give us the evidence we need to exonerate trina. Have you guys completely lost your minds? That man was put into a coma for a reason. To forcibly wake him up would be completely denying his medical needs. No, no, no. That’s the very definition of unethical. And I’m surprised you would even think about this, tj. No, no, tj, he — he warned me that this would be drastic, but I said we should do it anyway. Portia, you know that I’m right. If there’s ever been a time for drastic measures… honey, this is insane. You don’t understand.

[ Sighs ] Hey, listen, I spoke with jordan. Apparently, spencer told britt westbourne that he saw the exact same drug that the bartender od’d on in esme’s things. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a second. What? I believe esme drugged trina at the cabin. That’s why that one drink hit her so hard.

But oz’s testimony could change all of that. We just need him to wake up. I can give him the reversal drugs. You will do no such thing. Honey. No. What other choice do we have? But…staying mad and wanting revenge and wanting to see sonny fall… I mean, all that energy could be spent in other places and on other people. So you’re just gonna let it go? Yeah. Well, he must have done something to set sasha off because, uh, she trashed his car. How is she? She’s in pretty bad mental shape, but he’s pressing charges, so they’re holding her here overnight. Sonny, she can’t stay here, not in the state that she’s in. All right, I’m gonna call diane. We’ll — we’ll — we’ll prove that she was acting in self-defense. There’s dashcam footage. Sasha approached smoltz, not the other way around. Is there another way that we can get her out of here? Not in a conventional sense, if you know what I mean.

[ Sighs ] I don’t know how to help my wife. I’m on my way.

No, um… it’ll take me 10 minutes. Look, I don’t want to upset sasha any more, and there’s nothing you can do anyway. Listen, you need support.

I appreciate that. I really do, but, um… I’ll, uh — I’ll keep you posted, okay? Whatever you need, brando. I know. Thank you, sonny. Man. The risks of waking this guy up too soon are cognitive impairment, death. But he could also survive it. Yes. Yes, he could. His heart could be beating, yes, but who’s to say that he’ll even be able to speak? And if he can speak, what if he can’t even tell us what we want to hear? And if he does? Then tj… would be violating his oath. You’d be putting your whole medical career in danger when it’s barely even begun. Not to mention the legal ramifications if you happen to get caught. We won’T. You don’t know that.

[ Sighs ] This is too big of a gamble, guys. I-I-I won’t let you do this. There’s no way. I can’T. Okay. Portia, honey, I don’t think you understand. No one wants trina exonerated any more than I do. But to lose your medical license… honey, it’s not worth it. You need to promise me. Just — just leave it alone. Tj, promise me. Okay. I promise.

[ Sniffles ] Uh… the fact that you were willing to risk everything for my baby girl… …I’ll never forget it. There are a million different things that could go wrong. There’s a million and one. How else are we supposed to help trina? I think that there’s another way. If there’s another way, baby, I don’t see it. Aside from esme, oz haggerty is the only person who can prove trina’s innocence. We need oz awake, and there’s a way to do it. Frankly… frankly, I’m surprised you’re shutting this down so quickly. Is it really that hard to believe that I wouldn’t allow another doctor to go to jail with or in place of my daughter? But you’d let yourself. And that’s exactly what you’re gonna do, isn’t it?

I swear I heard the jury guy say trina’s name. Did I just see what I think I saw? Someone who works for sonny trying to influence a juror? Yeah, that sounds about right. Sonny’s trying to help trina? Don’t seem so surprised about that, josslyn. Sonny has known trina a long time, and she is really close with ava. But to do it like this? But it’s sonny, you know? He just does what he wants when he wants, to hell with anyone else. Hey, you could look at it like that. How else is there to look at it, mom? It’s not right. It’s not right for trina to go to prison for a crime she didn’t commit, either.

And he ran into trina there. Well, then why didn’t trina say anything? She was protecting spencer. She finally told me right before the trial started. She promised that if things got desperate, she’d name spencer as her alibi, but she didn’t have to. Spencer came forward on his own. Well, at least he stepped up for trina. Wow. Yeah, wow. He did a total 180. He told the whole court that esme was the one who recorded us and sent the video to the whole school. So why aren’t you more surprised? Spencer knew that trina was innocent all along. What?

Look, think about it, joss. If esme got the slightest bit suspicious, she would have left port charles and we’d have no evidence that it was actually her responsible. No one could know. No one except you. Spencer came over one night. They had just gotten in a big fight, him and trina. I was not cutting him any slack, and I forced him to tell me what he was up to. That means no secrets, especially when it’s about something like this. This isn’t who hooked up at a party or got drunk. This could potentially affect the rest of trina’s life. But spencer wanted to be the hero, and he wanted to pull the strings. And I should’ve seen that. Not necessarily. I mean, it’s always easier to say what you would have done differently when you’re looking back at a situation. I wasn’t in your position. I didn’t have spencer begging me to keep this secret. Still, I like to think that if you would have told me, we could have figured something out together. I’m sorry. Now that I know everything, we need to work together to bring esme down. Earlier, you sounded pretty sure you’d be found guilty. I have to consider the possibility. Or you could consider becoming an optimist. If I get my hopes up and I’m found guilty, I’ll be crushed. It’s better to prepare for the worst. You were great on the stand, and you’ve got some serious guts, risking cross-examination. The word on A.D.A. Arden is she eats barracudas for lunch.
