I’m feeling much better, thank you. I advanced to eating a piece of toast with a little butter on it, which is very exciting.

God, I cannot believe that mental patient Nurse Whitley poisoned half the cast and crew of “Body & Soul.”
Yeah, all because she didn’t like the reboot.
Yeah, that was whacko, right?

Ugh, well, at least they put her on 24-hour watch at Bayview, so we know that that won’t happen again, right?
Oh, it definitely won’t happen again. Abe and Kate sold the rights to “Body & Soul” back to the network. The Salem reboot is dead. [dramatic music]
You want to move with the show to LA?
I mean, don’t you? It’s not like you have another job.
No, but I mean, you know, I got my whole family here in Salem.

Oh. I hate to tell you this, but the hospital’s about to declare bankruptcy.
Bankruptcy?
OK, what does this mean for the future of the hospital?
It means that Salem University Hospital will be shutting down for good.

Oh, Joy, I don’t know why you would think that.
I would think that because I saw you and Stephanie in the nurses’ station last night, kissing. But only yesterday, you were in bed with me, saying you wanted to spend Valentine’s Day with me. But now you’re trying to worm your way out of it, saying you’re worried I’m not feeling up to it.
[sighs]
Just admit it, Alex. You don’t want to go to LA with me because you see a future here with her. [dramatic music]
I don’t believe this.
Come on, Kayla. You know as well as anyone, the hospital has been struggling to make ends meet for some time now.
Well, yes, I knew that, but I didn’t know it was such a dire situation.
And what about the show? Wasn’t it–
Helping to keep things afloat? Yeah, it was for a while, but that’s over now, I mean, obviously. And so the board has decided it doesn’t want to invest any more money into a sinking ship.
A sinking ship?
But this is a wonderful hospital.
Yeah. It’s also a money pit. And I’m afraid that when Kate and Abe decided that they wanted to pull the plug on “Body & Soul,” they also pulled the plug on Salem University Hospital too.
[scoffs]
So many ideas. So many dreams that’ll never become reality. [sighs] To think I almost had Jennifer Coolidge agree to do a five-, maybe even ten-episode arc. Sure, she never responded to my DM, but I saw that she read it. Maybe those dozens of question marks were overkill.
[sighs] These deserve a better fate than some order pad at the Brady Pub.
You deserve a better fate too, Leo. You put your blood, sweat, and tears into this show. You were finally, finally getting the respect that you deserved. [sighs]

Wow. Well, what about the cast and crew?
The network said that everyone from the Salem reboot is welcome to stay on– if they’re willing to move to LA, that is.
Wow. Wow. That is big news, obviously. God, I wonder how many people are gonna take them up on their offer.

Well, that’s what I wanted to talk to you about.
Oh. Well… I think it sounds like a no-brainer to me.
Think about it, Johnny. Before the miscarriage, we were ready to pull up stakes so that you could take that film job in LA. We had flights booked. The bakery was up for sale.
And then we decided that we were better off staying here. OK, look, Chanel, we’ve been through so much the last couple of months. I just–I don’t want to rock the boat, OK? I want to focus on us…

On our marriage, on our future.
OK, and we can do that anywhere.
Yeah, I suppose, but I just– I don’t think we need the added complication of a move on top of everything else.

Well, there’s this woman at my church, Ellen. And she actually used to be my Sunday school teacher. But her and her husband, Greg, they’re both doctors, and I know that they’re going to be amazing parents. [light country music] But Ellen’s been having a hard time getting pregnant, and I heard that they were thinking of adopting.
OK. Does your mom know them?
Oh, yeah, and she thinks that they’re, like, the perfect couple. So, you know, if she knew that the baby was going to a great home and raised in the church, then I really think she’s gonna change her mind about letting us put it up for adoption.
Wow. Wow. Oh, my God. That could be amazing.
Yeah. Yeah, it would be. And Ellen and Greg agreed to meet with us to talk about the possibility.

Like, now, at Horton Town Square. I would say later, but you know I have to work the dinner shift.

I am just shocked. No, no, no, I’m outraged that the hospital board would choose money and profits over the welfare of the people here. Oh, Tom Horton would just be rolling over in his grave.
Look, maybe it’s not a done deal. Hospitals go into receivership all the time. There could be another buyer out there.

Or maybe the board’s minds can be changed. I’m going to do a full-court press encouraging them to explore other options. And in the meantime, I’m gonna reach out to the hospital’s PR department, and I’m going to ask them to delay any announcements until we have given this our best shot.

You know, Alex, I thought you were the one person, the only person here in Salem that I could count on to treat me with kindness and respect. But, God, was I wrong.

[sighs] A couple weeks ago, Stephanie mentioned possibly quitting her PR gig at the show and giving our relationship another try.

OK. All right. [sighs] Truth is, after everything you went through with Chanel and Johnny, I fell for you. This wasn’t some calculated decision on my part, Joy. I like you. I like spending time with you. I just–I didn’t realize that you thought it was something a little bit more serious.

I didn’t find out about all this until yesterday when Stephanie told me she actually quit her job. We talked about getting back together for, like, two minutes, and I collapsed.

I mean, never mind me. I just–I feel terrible for Sophia. I mean, really, there’s just no one that’s on her side.

Yeah. Yeah, we are. But still, she’s really upset about what’s happened, obviously. She’s worried about how this might affect us in the future.

Look, Tate, you and Holly, if you’re really committed to one another, then you’ll find a way through it.
I mean, yeah, but still, I mean, between me wanting to be there for Sophia and wondering if this baby is gonna get adopted or not, I just– I’m asking Holly to put up with a lot.

Well, I hope this couple turns out to be the one and Sophia’s mom agrees to let her give up the baby.

No. No, it’s not selfish. It’s what Sophia and Tate want too, right? And it’s what’s best for them. And just as importantly, it’s what’s best for the baby. And yeah, I mean, it’s gonna be difficult no matter what. But in the long run, it’s also what’s best for you and Tate. Right?
Yeah, I guess. God, I’m sorry. I need to stop dumping all this on you. I mean, you just lost your job.

No, it’s not. I really need to stop ruminating. And hey, if you’re looking for work, I have lived here a lot longer than you, and I know a lot more people. So just say the word, and I can help.

You know, I still think back a lot to when we first found out you were pregnant.
Yeah. Yeah, I think about that a lot too. And, you know, even with, you know, the complications and Mama and the whole radiation scare, we still found a way to be excited about it.

But it made us realize that we really did want to have a baby. [tender music]
And then Kayla said that we needed to wait six months before we tried again.
