Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Jada told Belle that EJ set her up and didn’t understand how she could defend him. Belle didn’t know where EJ was. Jada noticed the door to the tunnels was open and thought EJ was hiding from her. She decided to see if he was through the tunnels. Rafe was upset that EJ allowed Jada to believe that he left her at the altar. He thought Jada was heartbroken. Rafe was grateful that Arnold would be able to pull off being commissioner. EJ said Rafe got away with it for years. They went back and forth until EJ gagged him. EJ walked out of the room and ran into Jada. She confronted him about making people believe she was a corrupt cop. Rafe screamed and Jada wondered what the noise was. EJ lied and said the construction workers were in the other room. They smirked at each other until they went upstairs. If Ava wasn’t with Tripp, Brady wondered what happened to her. He talked to Tripp until Steve took the phone. Steve assured Tripp that he would find out what happened with Ava. He believed she had a change of plans. After Steve got off the phone, Brady told him that he didn’t think Ava was okay. Steve looked at the messages on Brady’s phone to figure out where she could be. Brady didn’t think her texts made sense. Steve thought she might have planned to see Tripp but didn’t make it. He feared she might have been taken out because of her mob connections and her dealings with Clyde. Brady wasn’t sure that was it. He told her about the voice message he received. Steve listened to the message and wondered if someone else sent it. They realized that Ava could be in serious trouble. Kristen saw her mother at the Blake house. She was shocked and hugged her. Ava tried to interrupt them, but the woman in white stopped her. Kristen told her how she ended up in the house. It occurred to Kristen that her mother was behind Ava’s kidnapping. Ava wanted to get released, but the woman in white gagged her. Kristen wondered how her mother was still alive. She explained what happened to her. Her mother was surprised to find out that Stefano was dead. Kristen wanted to know why she didn’t reach out to her or Peter. She told Kristen that Rachel inspired her to want to come out of hiding.

Paulina thanked Shawn for his help with everything going on with Jada. She was counting on him to make the transition easier. Paulina told him that she planned to make Rafe the commissioner again. Shawn thought it was a slap in the face to replace Jada since she’s innocent. Paulina thought she had to take the charges seriously since Rafe believed Jada did it. Shawn stressed that Jada was innocent. Paulina believed people were innocent until proven guilty, but she couldn’t let the people of Salem lose confidence in the police department. Shawn understood that, but he didn’t get why she needed to replace her with Rafe. He didn’t like how Rafe agreed to work with EJ to go after Jada. She said she had to tell Jada about replacing her. Shawn stopped her and said he wanted to tell her about it. Jada told EJ that she didn’t believe anything he had to say. EJ didn’t care that she didn’t believe him. Belle heard the way he spoke to Jada and told him about it. Jada decided to leave the DiMera mansion. Belle told him that she lied to Jada because she didn’t want her to know their connection. She confronted him about the evidence he had on Jada. EJ didn’t want to talk about it, but Belle wouldn’t let it go. He couldn’t believe she thought he would make up evidence against Jada. Belle hoped he wouldn’t do that to her. They kissed each other. Shawn went to Rafe’s place to see Jada. He let her know that he had news for her. EJ went back to the tunnels to see Rafe. Rafe screamed out for Jada. EJ pulled out a syringe to use on him. Belle arrived at the station and Paulina told her about replacing Jada with Rafe as commissioner. Paulina hoped the investigation would clear Jada. If the investigation was true, Belle had to prosecute Jada.

Luna’s my daughter. All this time. And I am sorry that I didn’t tell you. I swear, I didn’t know for sure. But, Finn, what you’re thinking now– you cannot tell Steffy. She’s my wife. Are you insane?

Of course I’m gonna tell her.

Finn… think this through. Everything my wife and I have faced, everything we have overcome… …learning about Luna might be more than Steffy can take. There it is, that secret love language just you two have. It’s really sweet. We’re just lucky we found our way back to each other. You say a million things in just a glance. That makes me think about my husband, even though I just saw him.

[laughs]

Does Finn… does he know about what you’re doing at Forrester? Yeah. And he’s really supportive. Well, he knows that the takeover is weighing on me, but… hey, I’m just really thankful that I get to go home to him.

He keeps me grounded.

Well, you do the same for him. I’ve never seen a man so in love. Well, I think it’s a toss-up between you two. I have to say, not professionally, but personally… everything is really wonderful right now. Hey, Mom, what’s up? What’s wrong? Nothing. I’m just… I’m just grateful to our son-in-law coming through for you. Hate to think what would have happened if he hadn’t rescued you from his… very disturbed cousin. Whatever you’re thinking, those are impossible to take off. I’m sure you’re feeling a bit stir-crazy. Yeah, you got me there. [laughs] To think not too long ago, I wanted to stay in this house. I wanted to be here for good. I’m not complaining. I mean, being confined in this beautiful estate instead of a prison cell? There’s no contest on where I’d rather be. I know the rules but, um, I have to ask. My mom and my cousin came to visit me at the prison earlier. Will they ever be able to learn that I’m living here? [edgy music plays] You doing all right, sweetheart? I mean, I’m not happy with the company, but… I’m glad that you two are back together. And Finn and the kids, they’re great. No, I mean regarding Luna. Talking about her has to bring up some intense memories. Listen, what she did to you–

I mean, she–

You were a victim. But you survived. It’s a lot to process, and I know you’re very strong…

One of the strongest.

But I just wonder if you’ve really dealt with the impact of what you’ve been through with Luna. I pulled a lot of strings to have you under house arrest here. There’s a lot at stake for me having you in my home. No one would understand. But I truly believe that it’s worth it. Clearly, you’re remorseful. And given what you went through as a child, I believe you deserve a second chance. I know this is relatively… difficult for you– and it should be– but as you pointed out, it’s a hell of a lot better than being behind bars. So for now, I suggest, uh, you take it one day at a time, do the work, and we’ll see what happens. But right now, this is the only path forward. [sighs] God, I’m so horrified by what I’ve done. I can only imagine that Finn came to see me and say how hurt and disgusted he is by me. And clearly, I deserve it. [sniffling] I’ve been having this recurring dream lately where I-I see Finn and he’s with Steffy and the kids and they’re smiling and they’re so happy to be together. They’re this beautiful family. And then they see me and I wave and I start to make my way over, but then they turn and they run away from me like… I’m the most terrifying monster they’ve ever seen. And I call out to them, “Don’t be afraid. I’m not gonna hurt you.” How does it end? That’s the thing. In the end, Finn always gives me one last look. And it’s not fearful, but… definitely not with acceptance or forgiveness. I guess he just… sees me and he’s like…sad. And disappointed. And then, um, I don’t know, this is hard to explain, but I get this sensation in my stomach. And I look down, and there’s this string. And so I-I start to gather it, and I see that i-it’s tied to Finn. Like even as he goes away, it’s still connected to me. And I know it’s weird, but somehow it gives me hope. Is that so naive of me to think that Finn might somehow be able to see me differently? I mean, we’re still family after all, right? Maybe we can… I don’t know– redefine our relationship? [somber music plays] Luna killed two men. She tried to kill my wife, and now I learn that she’s my daughter? And how am I supposed to deal with that? How’s Steffy supposed to deal with that? Well, she won’t have to deal if you don’t tell her. [heavy music plays] I can’t stop thinking about Luna and the connection we share. I mean, that changes everything. When you were pregnant, you told me that there was no way I could be the father. I wasn’t sure, Finn. All I did know was that I wanted you to have the future that you deserved. Well, I could have made a real difference in her life. I was trying to protect you, Finn. And part of me can’t help but wonder… I mean, Sheila… is Luna’s grandmother. All these crimes that she’s committed–was it in her blood? No, no. Let’s not go there, okay? Think about how good you are and the life that you’ve created and all the lives that you’ve saved. Yeah, but what about all the lives that Luna, my daughter, has taken away… the life that she almost took away? My birth mother and my daughter have both tried to kill my wife. I mean, I-I can’t imagine how Steffy is gonna react when she hears about Luna. Well, then don’t tell her. You don’t have to. Yes, I do! Steffy is the most important person to me in my life, and there is no way that I’m gonna be able to ever keep a secret like this from her. So just stop it! You need to leave. We both need to… plan for the fallout after everyone learns the truth about Luna’s paternity. [heavy music plays] Is that my sister I saw leaving?

Steffy: Finn is truly my hero. His love and devotion amaze me every day. Finn’s commitment to you and your family– that was clear from the very beginning. While we know your husband’s been a rock for you, he can’t process the trauma of what’s happened. Are you still struggling with what you went through with Luna? [tense music plays] We’ve gotta be realistic. We can’t be sure when or even if anyone from your world is going to know that you’re serving your sentence here. So any idea you have about reconciliation or reunification

is highly u–

Unlikely? Yes. Now, having said that, I-I think you should see it as-as a distant goal, something that may not be attainable but you should absolutely be striving for.

[phone rings]

In the meantime, you know the drill, right? No one can see you or know that you’re here. Please tell me it’s a delivery. [sighs] Oh, great. Okay. Thanks. It’s your mother. Get outta here. Go on. Go hide. Go on. [knock on door] Poppy. Surprised to see you back here. Bill. I need your help. I need to find my daughter. [uneasy music plays] Yeah, the truth is I, uh, I still do struggle. You’ve pushed it down.

Ridge: Then can you please take some time to heal? The Forrester thing we’ll figure out–we will. No. No, no, no. I wanna be there. It gives me a sense of purpose amidst the chaos, like… I wanna be there. It’s normal to try to distract yourself, no matter how short-lived the relief is. But it’s really important to process the trauma, find some healthy coping mechanisms. It’s too easy to fall into old patterns if you’re not careful. Finn’s helped me with that. He knows my history, what I’ve overcome. He’s helped me completely transform my life. He’s a constant for me, my stability, and I love him so much for that. But if I am being honest with myself, it is… it is tough, knowing that his birth mother tried to kill me, and… his cousin drugged me and… tried to kill me too. I know we haven’t spoken in a while. Um… I’ve been doing a lot of, uh, processing, and I’m still struggling to make sense of the things that my daughter did. A child is largely shaped by their environment. [small laugh, whispers] Right. Um… well, part of that processing has been soul-searching… …and accountability. And I’m not exactly innocent in this. Maybe I did fail Luna as a mother and… That thought haunts me. Luna’s life could have been very different had I made better choices. [tearfully] And I know that I was… selfish and reckless, never providing any stability for my daughter, always moving around, and I can see now that that is a terrible environment for a child to grow up in. I mean, how was she supposed to thrive? So, yes, Bill, I know that my influence on my daughter may have caused a lot of damage. That… and not knowing who her father is. Why was Poppy here? Something medical? Um, no. I, uh, shouldn’t be surprised. I have a pretty good idea why she was here.

You do?

Course. She wanted to talk to you about Luna and everything that happened in our home years ago. [soft, dramatic music plays]

Poppy: The reason I’m really here– I went to the prison to see Luna and instead of seeing her, a prison official showed up and told me she wasn’t there. What did they say? Was she transferred? I don’t know. All he said was that she was still in the system. And then it has me wondering is she safe? It got me thinking that maybe she doesn’t even wanna see me or if she was transferred, does she even want me to know where? Luna set me up to spend the rest of my life in prison for the murders of Tom and Hollis, so… the feelings about my daughter are… complex. But you’re still concerned about her. Yes. I need to see Luna. Because there’s something she needs to know. Assuming by that look, I’m right. Poppy was here to talk about Luna. It’s okay, son. I know. You know? You and my sister, the bond you two have always shared– makes sense she’d confide in you about Luna,

her father.

Okay, Mom, look, I, um… I don’t know what you’re getting at. You know what, putting you in the middle was the last thing I wanted. Just couldn’t dismiss that feeling that something was happening between Penelope and my husband. Consumed me for years. For her to find out about it all… having me run tests with her daughter’s blood– I mean, of course she’d come here to talk to you. She needs someone to confide in, someone who’ll listen. She must be so angry with me… accusing her of having an affair with Jack. [scoffs] In our family home. My sister’s struggling… especially after

what Luna’s done.

No. That has nothing to do with you, Mom. Doesn’t it? It’s become so obvious that I could have done so much more. Stepped up as an aunt, I mean, been there for Luna when she needed it the most. [sighs] My jealousy and insecurity just took over. I failed my sister. Failed my niece. Luna needed guidance. The very least I could have done was… provided her that. Instead, I pushed her away, didn’t allow her to get to know me, her family. That poor girl’s never had a father in her life. Yeah. A father in Luna’s life could have made all the difference. Listen, I meant what I said. You’re one of the strongest people I know. Yeah, we really appreciate Finn’s love and devotion to you and your family. As parents, that’s all we could ever ask for. What Luna did, what Sheila did to you– I’ll never forget what happened, Dad. It’s always gonna haunt me on some level. But I know Finn. He is nothing like them. He saved me multiple times. And my love for Finn is greater than the pain and trauma that they put me through. It’s a true testament to your relationship that you can overcome all the obstacles that have been thrown at you. We just pray that you’re not tested ever again. Li: Wonder if we’ll ever know. The question still remains– who was Luna’s father?

Steffy: It’s true. Finn and I have been through way more than any couple should. But thankfully, we’ve always made it out the other side, and our bond even stronger. But if I am being honest with myself, I don’t think this feeling is ever gonna go away, always waiting and wondering… what Finn and I will have to face next.

Recap written by Suzanne

Finn and Poppy continue to argue. He’s still not sure how to tell Steffy, and she still doesn’t want him to tell her. Finally, he orders her out of his office so that they can both plan for the fallout. After she leaves, Li arrives and wonders why Poppy was there. Li assumes that Poppy was there to confide in him because they’ve always had a special bond. Li beats herself up for not being there for Luna.

Steffy sits at home with Ridge and Taylor. They’re all very happy, romance-wise. Taylor wonders if Steffy has really processed everything Luna put her through. Steffy admits that she struggles but has been using work to give her a sense of purposes. Taylor suggests that she find a better coping mechanism. Steffy insists that Finn is her rock, but she thinks she’ll always feel like she does now: wondering what they’ll have to face next.

Luna has cabin fever and wonders if anyone will ever be able to visit her there at Bill’s (since Poppy and Finn tried to visit her at the prison). Bill doesn’t know but thinks that for now, she has to stay there without anyone knowing, as per the agreement he worked out. Poppy visits, so Luna hides. She wants Bill to find Luna for her. Poppy admits that she might have failed Luna as a mother because of her bad choices and always moving around. Bill agrees with that but also points out that her not knowing her father might have contributed, too. She tells him about not being able to find Luna at the prison. She says that despite all that happened, she still wants to see Luna and is concerned about her. Luna cries silently as she listens nearby. Poppy says that she has something important to tell Luna.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[sighs] Can’t believe Mr. Russo gave us, like, 8 billion problems this week. Like, we all know he’s gonna be alone with his cat on Valentine’s Day, so why does he have to ruin it for the rest of us?

Valentine’s Day. Is that tomorrow?

[chuckles] Looks like someone’s forgotten.

No, I just–I don’t know, guess it must have slipped my mind.

Well, it’s probably too late to make a reservation somewhere, if that’s what you’re planning on doing.

I wasn’t.

So do you have other plans?

Actually, the only plans I have are with you. [soft music]

[light music]

Johnny, what are you doing here? I told you I was gonna get you from the hospital as soon as I could get away.

No worries, all right? Harold sent a car for me, so everything’s fine. Mwah.

OK. Well, how are you feeling?

I’m feeling much better, thank you. I advanced to eating a piece of toast with a little butter on it, which is very exciting.

Wow. Wow, that’s progress, huh?

Yeah.

God, I cannot believe that mental patient Nurse Whitley poisoned half the cast and crew of “Body & Soul.”

Yeah, all because she didn’t like the reboot.

Yeah, that was whacko, right?

Yeah.

Ugh, well, at least they put her on 24-hour watch at Bayview, so we know that that won’t happen again, right?

Oh, it definitely won’t happen again. Abe and Kate sold the rights to “Body & Soul” back to the network. The Salem reboot is dead. [dramatic music]

You want to move with the show to LA?

I mean, don’t you? It’s not like you have another job.

No, but I mean, you know, I got my whole family here in Salem.

Not your whole family, right?

My dad’s here. My Aunt Maggie’s here. I got a whole bunch of cousins and–

You want to stay for your cousins? Who, Philip? Xander?

All I’m saying, it’s a big move is all.

Right. Is this really about your family, or is this about Stephanie?

[chuckles] Stephanie? What do you mean?

I mean, she’s the real reason you don’t want to leave Salem, right?

I didn’t know you were so serious about acting.

No, it’s– it’s truly a calling.

Well, then I’m happy for you. Really, the best in California.

Thanks. You know, if you ask me, you should join me there.

I appreciate that. But, you know, my job is really here. I like it here.

Yeah, but, you know, I’m not sure it will be for much longer.

Excuse me?

Oh. I hate to tell you this, but the hospital’s about to declare bankruptcy.

Bankruptcy?

OK, what does this mean for the future of the hospital?

It means that Salem University Hospital will be shutting down for good.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Oh, Joy, I don’t know why you would think that.

I would think that because I saw you and Stephanie in the nurses’ station last night, kissing. But only yesterday, you were in bed with me, saying you wanted to spend Valentine’s Day with me. But now you’re trying to worm your way out of it, saying you’re worried I’m not feeling up to it.

[sighs]

Just admit it, Alex. You don’t want to go to LA with me because you see a future here with her. [dramatic music]

I don’t believe this.

Come on, Kayla. You know as well as anyone, the hospital has been struggling to make ends meet for some time now.

Well, yes, I knew that, but I didn’t know it was such a dire situation.

And what about the show? Wasn’t it–

Helping to keep things afloat? Yeah, it was for a while, but that’s over now, I mean, obviously. And so the board has decided it doesn’t want to invest any more money into a sinking ship.

A sinking ship?

But this is a wonderful hospital.

Yeah. It’s also a money pit. And I’m afraid that when Kate and Abe decided that they wanted to pull the plug on “Body & Soul,” they also pulled the plug on Salem University Hospital too.

[scoffs]

So many ideas. So many dreams that’ll never become reality. [sighs] To think I almost had Jennifer Coolidge agree to do a five-, maybe even ten-episode arc. Sure, she never responded to my DM, but I saw that she read it. Maybe those dozens of question marks were overkill.

[sighs] These deserve a better fate than some order pad at the Brady Pub.

You deserve a better fate too, Leo. You put your blood, sweat, and tears into this show. You were finally, finally getting the respect that you deserved. [sighs]

[sighs] Arrow, my handsome, handsome leading man, how I’m gonna miss you.

Hey, Mr. Stark.

Ay! Doug, you ever hear of knocking?

Oh, sorry. But you hired me to be your writer’s assistant. You told me to report this afternoon and be prepared to burn the midnight oil.

Right, I did. Sorry, I’ve been a bit distracted, to say the least.

So where should I begin?

Well, you can begin by… carrying all these office supplies out to my car and stacking them neatly in the trunk.

OK, sure. Are we going back to the Salem Inn to write?

No, we will not be writing anymore, period, from anywhere.

So you’re saying we do have plans for Valentine’s Day?

That’s what I’m saying.

Are you gonna tell me what they are?

No. No. Don’t you want to be surprised?

No. No more surprises.

[laughs] OK, then. All right. Fair enough. So tell me, where is our place?

Our place?

Mm-hmm.

I don’t know. I just feel like we’ve hung out in a lot of places, that’s all.

The Horton cabin.

Oh, of course. Yes.

Yeah, so I was thinking that maybe we could meet there and I would make us dinner.

And since when do you know how to cook?

I learned a thing or two when I stayed up there last summer, and I already talked to your grandma, and she gave me the keys.

Really, she did?

Yeah. Why wouldn’t she?

[laughs] I don’t know. I figured she might be concerned that we’d…you know.

That we’d what, play “Connect Four”?

Yeah. That and, you know… [light country music]

Actually, yeah, it did cross my mind that… maybe after dinner, we could… start a fire.

Yeah? And then what, tell each other ghost stories?

Whatever you want to do before we have to catch the last ferry home.

I think you know what I want to do.

Wait, the show is moving back to California?

Yeah.

Wow. Well, what about the cast and crew?

The network said that everyone from the Salem reboot is welcome to stay on– if they’re willing to move to LA, that is.

Wow. Wow. That is big news, obviously. God, I wonder how many people are gonna take them up on their offer.

I know Hattie has.

Uh-huh.

And that’s all I know of so far.

Huh. Well, what about you? [light music]

Well, that’s what I wanted to talk to you about.

Oh. Well… I think it sounds like a no-brainer to me.

Think about it, Johnny. Before the miscarriage, we were ready to pull up stakes so that you could take that film job in LA. We had flights booked. The bakery was up for sale.

And then we decided that we were better off staying here. OK, look, Chanel, we’ve been through so much the last couple of months. I just–I don’t want to rock the boat, OK? I want to focus on us…

Yeah.

On our marriage, on our future.

OK, and we can do that anywhere.

Yeah, I suppose, but I just– I don’t think we need the added complication of a move on top of everything else.

So what are you saying? You’re saying that you are gonna quit your job?

Yeah. I think it’s for the best. [light music]

[sighs] Johnny, is this really about our future, or is this about Joy Wesley? [dramatic music]

I heard you, Alex, telling Stephanie you didn’t want to break up with me just yet. You didn’t want to kick me while I was down.

[sighs] Joy, I am sorry. I did not want you to find out like that.

Oh, too late now.

I don’t get it, though. Why didn’t you just say something sooner?

Because I was hoping you would have the guts to tell me the truth. But clearly, since you’ve chosen to take the cowardly way out, I will save us both the time and the trouble. Alex, we are through.

Mom, I’m so sorry.

This can’t be happening.

Unfortunately, it is. And I figured I’d tell you now because, well, you might want to nab that Kassandra role while Bonnie’s still laid up.

Oh, my God, Seth, I’m not thinking about myself. I’m thinking about our patients, the staff here, the whole community. I mean, what if somebody doesn’t have transportation or they don’t have insurance or somebody goes into labor and they have to be driven all the way across town?

Believe me, Kayla, I’m as distressed about it as you are.

Oh, right. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I can tell.

I better go clean out my desk.

Ugh!

Oh, my God. Mom, are you OK?

No, I’m not OK.

What do you mean you’re not writing anymore?

Well, not for “Body & Soul,” anyway. I was just let go. Fired.

That’s–oh, my God. I’m sorry.

Yeah, me too. For you, I mean. Seeing as I’m no longer going to be writing, I’m not gonna be needing a writer’s assistant. And trust me, if I had any idea that this was happening–

It’s OK. It’s not your fault.

Still, I know you were counting on the salary or at least the meager hourly wage to buy back Julie’s necklace.

Leo, don’t worry about it. And I promise you, I’ll pay you back that advance that you gave me.

Well, I’m at least glad you’ve got free room and board with Julie.

Yeah.

What? What is it?

Nothing. It’s fine.

No, no. As young as you are, that was the “yeah” of the middle aged man who just lost his son’s college tuition at a craps table.

Fine, it’s just… I already gave the money to Holly.

To Holly? Oh, you mean–

The money that I owed her, yeah. But it’s OK. I’ll just–I’ll just ask her to give it back.

No, no, no, no. You don’t have to do that.

[light country music]

Holly, are you sure that you want to take things to the next level?

I am. And actually, I have been for a while. I mean, unless you aren’t, you know, with the whole Sophia situation. I get it.

No, no, no. I really want to, like, so bad. I just–I don’t know. I didn’t want to take things for granted. And I just– I didn’t want to assume that that was what–

It’s OK. You can assume. Tate, I love you, and I want to make love with you.

I want that, too, so bad.

[chuckles]

[clears throat]

Sophia.

Sorry to interrupt, but it’s kind of important.

OK. What is it?

I might have found a couple who wants to adopt our baby. [dramatic music]

Wait. So you found a couple? How?

Well, there’s this woman at my church, Ellen. And she actually used to be my Sunday school teacher. But her and her husband, Greg, they’re both doctors, and I know that they’re going to be amazing parents. [light country music] But Ellen’s been having a hard time getting pregnant, and I heard that they were thinking of adopting.

OK. Does your mom know them?

Oh, yeah, and she thinks that they’re, like, the perfect couple. So, you know, if she knew that the baby was going to a great home and raised in the church, then I really think she’s gonna change her mind about letting us put it up for adoption.

Wow. Wow. Oh, my God. That could be amazing.

Yeah. Yeah, it would be. And Ellen and Greg agreed to meet with us to talk about the possibility.

Awesome. OK, when?

Like, now, at Horton Town Square. I would say later, but you know I have to work the dinner shift.

Oh.

Go. This is important.

Sure?

Yeah.

Thank you for understanding.

Good luck.

All right, let’s go.

OK.

[sighs]

But why don’t you want me to ask Holly for your money back? I mean, now that you’re out of a job–

Well, look, I rode the gravy train while it lasted. I got while the getting was good. I can afford to be magnanimous.

But you, like, barely know me.

Yeah, but I gave you an advance. I’m not gonna now have you go back to this girl who you like, as in like-like, and ask for it back.

Holly?

No, no, we’re just– we’re just friends.

Right. Just friends, I’ve heard that before. I would like for you to consider this severance. Besides, I’m gonna need a tax write-off now that I no longer have any income.

Is that how tax write-offs work?

I don’t have the slightest idea.

Well, I don’t know what to say besides thank you, so thank you so much. That is very generous of you, Mr. Stark.

Mr. Stark. Do I look like a Marvel character? Which I’m glad I’m not, because I would be schvitzing up a storm if I was wearing that clunky metal getup. So do me a favor. Call me Leo.

I will, Leo.

Of course. Thank you, Mr.– I mean Leo. [dramatic music]

I am just shocked. No, no, no, I’m outraged that the hospital board would choose money and profits over the welfare of the people here. Oh, Tom Horton would just be rolling over in his grave.

Look, maybe it’s not a done deal. Hospitals go into receivership all the time. There could be another buyer out there.

Yeah.

Or maybe the board’s minds can be changed. I’m going to do a full-court press encouraging them to explore other options. And in the meantime, I’m gonna reach out to the hospital’s PR department, and I’m going to ask them to delay any announcements until we have given this our best shot.

OK. I appreciate your determination. I’m gonna get on the phone with the board members and–

No, no, no, no, no. Mom, Mom, you just rest. OK? Just focus on getting better. You always take care of me, so please, let me do this for you.

OK.

You know, Alex, I thought you were the one person, the only person here in Salem that I could count on to treat me with kindness and respect. But, God, was I wrong.

I never meant to disrespect you.

Of course you meant to. What do you mean? You thought I would be your side piece so nobody on set would know that you were with Stephanie.

No. What are you talking about? That’s not how it went down at all.

Then how did it go down, huh? How long has this been going on?

[sighs] A couple weeks ago, Stephanie mentioned possibly quitting her PR gig at the show and giving our relationship another try.

A couple weeks ago?

I just thought she decided not to go through with it.

So you’ve been thinking about this for two weeks and you decided not to say anything to me?

I didn’t want to hurt your feelings, Joy.

Right, or you didn’t want to get kicked out of my bed.

OK. All right. [sighs] Truth is, after everything you went through with Chanel and Johnny, I fell for you. This wasn’t some calculated decision on my part, Joy. I like you. I like spending time with you. I just–I didn’t realize that you thought it was something a little bit more serious.

Wow. How many times have you used that one before, Alex? ‘Cause with you, God, it sounds so natural coming out of your mouth, so practiced.

I didn’t find out about all this until yesterday when Stephanie told me she actually quit her job. We talked about getting back together for, like, two minutes, and I collapsed.

[sighs] Right. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, and then you– you saved my life, which is something to be grateful for. What I’m doing with that life, God only knows, but– [scoffs]

You can still go to LA, Joy.

Oh, you would love that, wouldn’t you, knowing I’m thousands of miles away?

I’m thinking about your future, you know, your career.

Well, you can stop thinking about anything that has to do with me. I don’t want to hear a single word that comes out of your mouth. Go. Go.

All right, Joy.

Go tell Stephanie the good news.

Joy.

Go! Get the hell out of here. Go.

[light music]

Chanel, my wanting to stay in Salem has absolutely nothing to do with Joy Wesley, OK?

No? So you’re not trying to put distance between the two of you because it’s what you think I want?

No, I’m not. Look, I don’t even know if Joy is going to LA.

Well, why wouldn’t she? I mean, what’s keeping her in Salem?

She’s dating Alex, for one thing.

OK. I mean, be that as it may, Johnny, I do not want you to sacrifice your dreams because it’s what you think I want.

Chanel… my biggest dream… is to build a future with you. [tender music] OK? Look, my family’s here. Your family’s here. Your business is here. Why move all the way to California when there’s plenty of opportunity for me right here? I mean, I could do theater. I could do the news. I mean, who knows, I could start a production company, all right? But the bottom line is…

The only thing I want is for us to build a family together.

I love so much, Johnny.

Love you too.

Listen, I know it’s gonna be hard keeping the bankruptcy completely under wraps. But please, could you just give it 24 hours? [sighs] That’s great. Thank you, Lourdes. Thank you.

Steph.

[sighs]

Hi.

Aw.

[sighs] I’m glad I ran into you.

[sighs]

I got some news.

[sighs]

Wait. What’s wrong?

According to Seth Burns, the hospital is about to file Chapter 11.

They’re filing bankruptcy?

Yeah. And unless we do something to stop it, Salem University Hospital is going to shut down… for good.

Damn. – Seth, what are you doing here?

Just coming by to pick up my last paycheck before shoving off to Hollywood.

[gasps] So you’re making the big move, huh?

Yeah, got myself a little bungalow in Malibu right next to Brad Pitt, if you can believe it.

Shut up. Brad Pitt, really?

Are you kidding? I got a crap apartment by the freeway. I’m just grateful I get to keep my day job.

Well, forgive me for being presumptuous, but I thought the hospital gig was your day job.

Yeah, it was, but no longer. [chuckles]

Why? What happened? [dramatic music]

Holly, hey.

Doug, hey. How was work? Today is your first day, right?

Yeah, first day and last.

Oh, no. What happened?

It’s a long story. But basically, Leo got canned, so he no longer needs an assistant.

Yikes. Man, that sucks. Oh, and about the advance you gave me, I can totally get a refund for my school trip payment.

No. No need. No, he insisted that he does not want the money back.

What, Leo said that, as in Leo Stark?

Yeah. But don’t spread it around, OK? He wants to uphold his reputation as a cranky cheapskate.

Wow. Well, my lips are sealed.

[chuckles] All right, well, I’m gonna go out and pound the pavement. I don’t want to keep leeching off of Julie, and I really want to buy her necklace back.

Right.

So did your study partner ditch you?

Sort of. Sophia and Tate might have found a couple who wants to adopt their baby.

Oh. I thought the whole adoption thing was off.

Yeah, well, turns out, it might be back on after all. [light country music]

Do you want something from Sweet Bits while we wait?

Oh, I can’t. I have no appetite. I’m too nervous. I just really want this all to work out so badly.

Yeah, me too. [phone ringing]

Oh. [light music] It’s Ellen.

Ellen, hi. Is everything– [dramatic music] Oh, yeah. I understand. That’s OK. Thank you for letting me know.

They’re backing out.

No. [sighs] OK, did she say why?

No, she couldn’t wait to get off the phone.

[sighs] Look, it’s gonna be OK, all right? Like, how hard can it be to find another couple who wants to adopt a baby, right?

Wow. Salem U Hospital is going under? I can’t believe that.

Yeah, it’s pretty shocking.

[sighs]

I mean, I’m gonna do everything in my power to save it, but I just– I don’t know if the odds are very good.

How’s your mom taking it?

Well, as you’d expect. She’s devastated.

I’m sure.

Anyway, whatever bad news you have, lay it on me.

I mean, it’s not exactly bad news, but… it might not be the best time to talk about it.

No, about what?

Joy and I. We ended things.

Oh.

Yeah.

So you broke up with her?

No. No, she–she broke up with me.

No, Mom, I’m telling you, do not– do not fly out here, OK? I’m fine. No, I don’t–I don’t know if I’m going to LA. The truth is, everything’s just really up in the air right now, so…

Not hard to find another couple to adopt our baby? How can you say that? You know what my mom is like. You know that she’s gonna reject anybody who she doesn’t think is gonna be the perfect parents. OK, if they aren’t religious enough, right, or if they aren’t the right age, if they don’t make enough money or if they don’t have some kind of fancy academic credentials or whatever–

I know. I know. I know. Look, it’s–hey, hey, your mom, yes, is gonna make it very difficult. She is. But we cannot give up hope. We can’t. OK?

Well, I try not to. But, you know, every day that goes by– my God, Tate, when is this nightmare gonna end?

I know.

Tate, buddy, hey. Long time, no see. How goes it? [dramatic music]

You know, it– it goes. Sorry. This is my friend Sophia. Sophia, this is my cousin Johnny and his wife, Chanel.

Hi.

Hey.

Of course I know Sophia. You used to stop by Sweet Bits on your way to work at the Bistro, was it?

That’s right. Yeah.

Yeah, it’s been a minute.

Yeah, well, morning sickness.

Ah.

Of course.

Is everything OK?

Actually, no, not really. We were actually just supposed to meet a couple who was interested in adopting our baby and–

But they canceled.

Oh, no. I am so sorry to hear that.

Yeah, well, I bet they were just afraid of my mother’s wrath.

Yeah. Mrs. Choi isn’t really a fan of the whole idea. So we were really hoping that if we found a couple she approved of, she would change her mind.

I better get to work. And you probably want to get back to Holly.

So I’ll see you at school tomorrow.

OK. [sighs]

Tate, man, I’m really sorry you’re going through this.

I mean, never mind me. I just–I feel terrible for Sophia. I mean, really, there’s just no one that’s on her side.

Well, she has you.

Yeah, but I mean, I’m not really sure if that helps all that much ’cause she knows the person that I really want to be with is Holly.

So you and Holly are working things out?

Yeah. Yeah, we are. But still, she’s really upset about what’s happened, obviously. She’s worried about how this might affect us in the future.

Yeah, that’s understandable.

Look, Tate, you and Holly, if you’re really committed to one another, then you’ll find a way through it.

I mean, yeah, but still, I mean, between me wanting to be there for Sophia and wondering if this baby is gonna get adopted or not, I just– I’m asking Holly to put up with a lot.

But you are worth it, Tate.

Yeah, I hope so.

Mm-hmm.

Well, I hope this couple turns out to be the one and Sophia’s mom agrees to let her give up the baby.

Me too. Doug, can I ask you a question and you be completely honest with me?

About what?

Does it sound selfish how badly I want this all to happen?

No. No, it’s not selfish. It’s what Sophia and Tate want too, right? And it’s what’s best for them. And just as importantly, it’s what’s best for the baby. And yeah, I mean, it’s gonna be difficult no matter what. But in the long run, it’s also what’s best for you and Tate. Right?

Yeah, I guess. God, I’m sorry. I need to stop dumping all this on you. I mean, you just lost your job.

Holly, it’s OK.

No, it’s not. I really need to stop ruminating. And hey, if you’re looking for work, I have lived here a lot longer than you, and I know a lot more people. So just say the word, and I can help.

Thank you. I might actually take you up on that. [light country music]

Gosh. Where will I go now when I throw out my back or injure my wrist in a trust fall? Where is Dr. Marlena Evans gonna hang her shingle now?

Oh, I’m sure she’ll figure something out. And you will too. And listen, Leo, I want to take this opportunity to say I think you’re a fantastic writer.

You do?

I do. I’ve really enjoyed all the stories Dr. Blake Lamoray was involved in. And all that to say Johnny’s been telling me what a great job I’ve been doing. So if possible, I’d love to be featured more prominently in the reboot.

Sorry, Seth, you’re barking up the wrong tree. I am no longer writing for “Body & Soul.”

What? You’ve decided not to go with the show?

No, the network decided that for me.

Oh. Oh, I’m sorry.

Oh, it’s OK. I hate LA anyway. Palm trees, gorgeous people, hiking, sneaking wine into the Hollywood Bowl, perfect weather– who needs that?

Right? [chuckles] So what are you gonna do now?

[sighs] That’s a really good question.

Mm.

So Joy broke up with you?

Well, turns out, she overheard us out here last night talking about how we wanted to be together.

Oh. Oh.

Yeah.

That’s too bad.

Yeah, she was pretty upset, to say the least.

Ugh.

Honestly, Steph, I can’t even blame her. I could have handled things a lot better.

Same. Same. But you know what? In the end, it worked out, because we would have gotten to this end result anyway.

True. Very true. So I guess now there’s no reason why I can’t do this. [tender music]

Right?

Mm-hmm.

Mm.

[tender music]

So you got any plans for the day?

Unfortunately, I have to work.

Ugh.

In fact, I’m gonna have to pull an all-nighter, strategizing about ways to save this hospital.

Maybe you could use some help.

I’d love that.

Mm.

But, Alex, you have to promise me–

No distractions or at least kept to a minimum…

Mm-hmm.

For now. But while we’re waiting… mm.

Mm. Let’s go.

OK. [dramatic music]

I suppose I’m gonna have to go hunt down Abe and Kate for my check. Oh, I hope they don’t try to stiff me. [both laugh]

Good luck.

You know, it’s only one man’s opinion, but I think the new producers are idiots if they don’t want you.

Thank you, Seth. I wish more people shared your opinion.

Listen, plenty of folks love the show. It’s just that the haters make the most noise. So ignore them, and remember what I said when you’re up there accepting your Daytime Emmy.

OK, I will. Thank you.

Good luck, my friend.

Maybe I don’t suck.

Hmm, you know, the Brady Pub’s always looking for an extra hand. I know it doesn’t pay much, but Tate said it was a pretty chill job to work at.

The pub, huh?

Yeah. And FYI, someone as charming as you could make a whole lot of tips.

You think I’m charming?

Yeah, I do, but don’t let that get to your head.

Oh, way too late. Way too late. [both laugh]

Hey.

Hey, Tate.

What’s up, man?

That was fast. What happened? [light country music]

Well, the couple who was considering adopting the baby, they backed out.

What?

Yeah. So it’s back to square one.

[sighs] [dramatic music]

Oh, God, Tate– poor guy.

Yeah. Yeah, he’s going through a lot.

Mm.

And on top of that, still being in high school? Ugh, and then Sophia, what she must be going through, you know, not only being pregnant by someone who’s in love with someone else but then also having a mother who doesn’t support her choices. [light music]

Yeah. Yeah, I feel for both of them. I feel for Holly.

Mm, yeah.

You know, I still think back a lot to when we first found out you were pregnant.

Yeah. Yeah, I think about that a lot too. And, you know, even with, you know, the complications and Mama and the whole radiation scare, we still found a way to be excited about it.

Yeah, we did.

Mm. Yeah, but then, you know, when I miscarried, that was really tough for both of us, obviously.

It was, yeah.

But it made us realize that we really did want to have a baby. [tender music]

And then Kayla said that we needed to wait six months before we tried again.

Mm-hmm.

At the time, I think… that’s what we both wanted to do.

But then we had our little…hiccup.

Johnny, I– I still want to have a baby.

You do?

Yeah. Yeah, I do. I mean, look, I know that we just got back together, but it has been six months. So maybe we could see if we could get an appointment with Kayla and see if she’ll give us the go-ahead. I mean, if that’s OK with you.

Oh, that’s more than OK. I think that would be amazing.

Yeah?

Yeah. Yeah, I do. Let’s–let’s have a baby.

Let’s have a baby.

OK. [both laugh]

Update written by Joseph

Leo tries working on his laptop in his room at the Salem Inn but he’s bothered by the sounds of Hattie drinking behind him on the bed. Hattie asks him for a refill of her pineapple guava juice which Leo reluctantly brings. Hattie thanks Leo for taking care of her after she was poisoned. Leo tells her not to mention it and tries to go back to working but Hattie asks him to fluff her pillows.

Stephanie visits Kayla in the hospital and brings her flowers as she checks on her. Kayla says she’s feeling much better since the antidote kicked in. Stephanie calls it a nightmare. Kayla thinks it gave Steve quite a scare to see her collapse like that. Stephanie says she was pretty freaked out when Alex passed out right after telling her that he wanted to be with her.

Joy remains in her hospital bed and picks up her phone as she thinks back to walking in on Alex and Stephanie kissing. Alex then enters the room. Joy says she was just thinking about him.

Bonnie sits in a wheelchair at the hospital as Johnny approaches and greets her. Bonnie questions him being up and around after hearing about the poisoned scripts. Johnny says it wasn’t fun but he’ll be fine. Johnny says the antidote worked and he’s good to go. Johnny asks how Bonnie is. Bonnie guesses she’s not too bad, noting that they just unwired her jaw. Johnny asks if she’s waiting on someone. Bonnie mentions that she just stopped cold when she saw the elevator as it brings back bad memories. Johnny assures her that now that Whitley has been exposed, she can’t hurt them or their show anymore.

Kate goes to the Body and Soul studio while on a call with Roman, assuring that she’s fine as she missed the whole thing. Kate says she’s lucky since she was the only one not targeted by the lunatic. Kate then finds a photo of herself with the red X through it on her desk. Kate claims to Roman it’s nothing to worry about and just a little crisis on set, so she should go take care of things. Kate tells Roman to have a good time in Chicago and sends her love to Rex as they hang up. Abe arrives at the studio, so Kate shows him the photo and worries that Whitley is at it again, so they need to call the police. Abe assures that Whitley is no longer a threat and is under 24 hour watch at Bayview. Kate questions where the photo came from then. Abe explains that they took photos from Whitley’s room and found that one on her night stand. Abe tells Kate that he wanted her to understand the gravity of the situation, because it’s up to them to determine what to do about it.

Seth Burns approaches Bonnie and Johnny at the hospital and mentions that he’s on the mend as well. Seth presents Bonnie a form to sign to prevent her from suing the hospital for her accident but Johnny stops her from signing it.

Stephanie tells Kayla that she’s not going to be Body and Soul’s publicist anymore as she realized she needed to keep her personal and professional life separate. Stephanie adds that she realized it wasn’t worth giving up on being with Alex to keep one client. Kayla asks if Alex is all in on the relationship as well. Stephanie confirms that they told each other they want to be together. Kayla calls that wonderful since she knew it was what Stephanie wanted all along and she’s very happy for her. Stephanie adds that the only downside is that they won’t be working together anymore. Kayla says she was looking forward to that, but after what happened, she can’t complain about her distancing herself from Body and Soul. Stephanie can’t decide if she picked the worst week to leave or the best. Kayla says seeing her happy makes it the right decision. Stephanie admits there is one little problem.

Alex asks Joy why she was thinking about him. Joy says she keeps thinking back to how he saved her life. Alex says he’s just glad that he and Stephanie got there when they did. Joy says she’s grateful they were together and that Alex was there for her as she hugs him.

Leo fluffs Hattie’s pillow and says he now needs to finish writing his story for Body and Soul. Hattie asks about the story. Leo explains that her character Charlemagne gets kidnapped by her maid and replaced by an exact duplicate. Hattie asks if Marlena is coming in but Leo says no. Hattie then realizes that he wants her to play both parts. Leo says she gets two parts and two paychecks, calling it a home run but Hattie doesn’t want to play two roles. Leo calls it every actor’s dream to create two different characters and have two salaries, asking what’s not to love. Hattie says it just hits a little close to home since everybody in town knows that she pretended to be Marlena and took over her life and ended up in prison. Leo feels that’s why this is perfect for her, so she can reclaim it and draw from personal experience. Hattie still feels it’s a little played out but Leo disagrees, feeling it’s classic and the fans will love it. Leo insists it will carry six months of story. Hattie says Leo is such an amazing writer that he will think of a new storyline.

Joy tells Alex that she should be getting let out soon and she hopes before tomorrow, reminding Alex that it’s Valentine’s Day. Alex didn’t think she’d be up to do anything and thinks she should take it easy. Joy is sure she’ll be up to dinner and says she owes Alex everything, so she’d like to take him out. Alex says that’s not necessary. Joy knows it doesn’t make up for saving her life, but calls it a start unless there’s some reason he doesn’t want to go out with her…

Stephanie explains to Kayla that Alex and Joy haven’t broken up yet. Kayla points out that they weren’t dating very long and she doesn’t want Joy to be hurt but it seems they could part ways amicably. Stephanie says she hoped so, but after everything Joy went through with Johnny, she’s a little dependent on Alex right now. Stephanie adds that after she and Alex decided to be together, they found Joy unconscious in her room after being poisoned, so they decided maybe Alex shouldn’t kick her while she’s down. Kayla acknowledges it’s a difficult position but suggests Alex can let her down gently so he and Stephanie can start their relationship. Stephanie says she really hopes so.

Kate tells Abe that she knows it was a traumatic situation but they are in the entertainment business and overzealous fans come with the territory. Abe argues that there’s a difference while Kate argues that Whitley doesn’t get to dictate how they run their show and the show must go on. Kate declares that they are out of the woods while Abe points out that Justin is still threatening to sue the hospital after Bonnie’s accident. Kate insists that Justin will calm down. Abe asks about others in the cast. Kate questions what Abe is saying. Abe responds that there’s only one solution to their problem.

Seth tells Johnny that he’s not directing a scene. Johnny says he’s sure that Justin wouldn’t mind taking a look at the paper work before Bonnie signs it. Bonnie admits she’s having a hard time. Johnny tells Seth to let it go since Bonnie just fell down an elevator shaft. Seth argues that they were just poisoned, so things happen in this town. Seth knows the last thing Bonnie wants to do is make things more difficult for the show, especially with all of their struggles lately, so if she and Justin pursue a lawsuit, the hospital would have no choice but to no longer allow Body and Soul to shoot there. Seth says he’s not sure the show could sustain that loss and Bonnie wouldn’t want that. Seth urges Bonnie to just sign the paper because all of their futures depend on it. Johnny and Seth then both receive text messages, calling a meeting for all cast and crew. Bonnie wonders what it’s about. Seth continues to urge Bonnie to sign the paper but Bonnie is startled by the elevator opening. Leo and Hattie arrive, guessing they all just got the same text about the emergency meeting. Johnny says he’s trying to figure out what it means.

Kayla gets the text from Abe and Kate, calling an emergency meeting at the hospital. Stephanie says she has no clue what it’s about and wonders if Alex knows.

Joy asks if Alex doesn’t have any other plans for Valentine’s Day. They then get interrupted when they both get the text about the emergency meeting for all cast and crew. Joy suggests they should go find out what it’s about, insisting that she’s fine as long as she has him with her. Alex says he’ll go get her a wheelchair and exits the room.

Johnny says he’s sure it’s just an update on Whitley and that Abe and Kate want to assure they don’t have to worry about any more poisoned scripts. Leo remarks that he’ll never forgive them for believing he wrote those scripts. Alex wheels Joy over while Stephanie wheels Kayla over. Stephanie tells Joy that it’s good to see her and she looks so much better. Joy says she’s glad Kayla is doing better too. Kayla is glad they got the antidote in time. Joy remarks that she’s just glad Alex and Stephanie came when they did. Kate and Abe then arrive at the hospital for the meeting. Abe thanks them all for coming. Kate tells them how grateful they are for everyone doing better and recovering. Abe assures them all that Whitley is under 24 hour watch at Bayview. Kate adds that she won’t be able to hurt any of them again. Kate notes that they are cooperating with the police to make sure Whitley stays locked up and she’s sure they will all be contacted soon to make a statement. Hattie asks when they will get back to work. Kate says that’s what they wanted to talk about. Kate says she and Abe did not take this past week lightly and nothing is more important than the health and well being of their employees. Kate declares that they have decided they could not go on with the show without being sure they were all safe. Kate then announces that they have decided to pull the plug on Body and Soul, shocking everyone at the hospital. Johnny questions it just being over. Alex thinks it’s an overreaction. Abe says they are sorry and they know it must come as a shock. Kate explains that they don’t feel comfortable returning to production and feel it’s too dangerous if anyone else gets hurt. Bonnie argues against no one else having a say. Kate points out that almost all of them spent last night in the hospital. Seth argues that the show can’t end like this. Hattie asks what will happen to the story. Abe clarifies that the story won’t end which Johnny questions. Abe says what makes soap operas special is that they never end. Kayla points out that they said it was ending. Stephanie questions if the show is continuing without them. Kate explains that the network were very upset since they love the show and it’s a top producer for them. Hattie asks if they are ending or not. Kate says they are still too concerned with everyone’s safety to continue their show, so the network has decided to produce the show themselves, but not in Salem as they are going to take the production to Los Angeles. Bonnie asks if they are all going to be replaced but Abe says no, so Hattie asks if they are not losing their jobs. Kate then reveals that the network is willing to keep everybody on, as long as they are willing to relocate to California.

Stephanie brings Kayla back to her hospital room and says that’s not what she was expecting. Kayla says it must have been a tough decision since Abe and Kate both love the show. Stephanie comments on everyone seeming shocked. Bonnie is brought in to the woman and comments on being shocked. Kayla talks about not even starting on the show. Bonnie questions Kayla not taking her part. Kayla explains that it was always going to be temporary but she’s certainly not moving to California. Bonnie thanks her for not taking the role. Stephanie asks if this means Bonnie is moving to LA. Bonnie says she’ll have to talk to Justin but it feels good to have the option. Stephanie asks about Alex. Bonnie says she hasn’t talked to him yet but he and Joy are the hot young stars, so the network must be doing everything to try to convince him.

Alex gets Joy back in her hospital bed and tells her that announcement took him by surprise. Joy calls it pretty shocking news but feels it’s not terrible since the network love the show enough to save it and keep the whole cast. Alex brings up having to move to LA. Joy feels that’s exciting and says she always wanted to live there. Joy asks Alex if they are going to take the offer.

Leo asks what Hattie and Johnny are going to do. Hattie responds that she’s definitely going to LA, feeling she has to as one of the stars of the show. Leo asks about Johnny. Johnny says he’ll need to discuss it with Chanel, but they are just getting back on track so he doesn’t think asking her to move across the country is the best decision for them right now. Leo talks about spending most of his life drifting from place to place, but he just fixed things with Javi and doesn’t want to mess that up again. Johnny suggests maybe he doesn’t have to since Leo could write the show from anywhere and doesn’t have to be on set.

Kate and Abe return to the studio. Kate supposes it went as well as could be expected. Abe questions if it did since everyone looked so disappointed. Kate points out that no one did more than him. Kate knows it’s a sad day but feels it’s not all bad news, since the network paid them a small fortune for the rights to the show so they made a tidy little profit running it. Abe responds that it was never about the money for him as he wanted something new and rewarding. Abe feels lucky to have the experience. Kate says she loved it too. Abe declares that they made a damn good team. Kate says she will treasure all the time they had with the Pineview adventures. Abe agrees that the good times far outweighed the bad. Kate can’t believe they actually made it happen after having no idea what they were doing. Kate says even though the team is breaking up before they thought it would, she thinks they still deserve a toast which Abe agrees with. Abe and Kate then toast to Body and Soul. Leo then joins them and comments on the big news. Kate asks if there’s something they can do for him. Leo thanks them for taking a chance on him as writing for Body and Soul had been an honor. Abe encourages that he should be very proud of the work he did. Leo asks for the contact information for the network as he’s not talking about moving to Los Angeles as Salem is his home and his whole life is here. Leo says he doesn’t have to be on set so he can write from here and just fly in for meetings. Kate tells Leo that’s not going to happen. Leo questions why he can’t write remotely. Abe then reveals the network doesn’t want Leo to write at all which he questions. Kate then announces that the network are bringing in another head writer.

Hattie tells Bonnie that it’s a no brainer for her and she is all in on going to LA. Bonnie says she’ll have to think about it and talk to Justin. Bonnie adds that she’s in no shape to make any life changing decisions at the moment. Bonnie notes that Kayla said the part is still hers and jokes that she won’t have to fight her for it. Hattie hopes Bonnie takes it and excitedly talks about the idea of them going to California together. Bonnie admits she makes it sound fun. Hattie says she’ll make sure the dressing room next to her is free for Bonnie just in case.

Alex questions Joy wanting to move with the show to LA. Joy questions if Alex doesn’t since he doesn’t have another job. Alex brings up his family being in Salem. Joy questions Alex wanting to stay for Philip and Xander. Alex calls it a big move for him. Joy asks if this is really about his family or if it’s about Stephanie.

Stephanie asks if Kayla thinks Alex would really go to LA for the show. Kayla thinks Stephanie would know better than her. Stephanie acknowledges that Alex loves being on the show and the fans love him. Kayla points out that Stephanie is here as well as his family. Seth Burns enters and announces that he just turned in his resignation to move to LA. Kayla questions Seth giving up the hospital for the show. Seth responds that he’s afraid he had no choice as he never expected to find his passion this late in life. Kayla didn’t know he was so serious about acting. Seth calls it truly a calling. Sonny gets a call from his doctor while he is on his private plane on his way back home from Los Angeles. The doctor tells Sonny that his tests show he doesn’t need a pacemaker but he will need surgery to repair the damage that the gunshot wound did to his heart. Sonny decides to have the surgery done in three months and keep taking his medicine until he has the operation.

Kristina calls Sonny that Ava tried to kidnap Avery, but Ric persuaded her not to do it. Natalia thinks that Sonny could use the information about the almost kidnapping to reach a compromise with Ava instead of going to court for custody of Avery.

Danny finds out that Cyrus is at Charlie’s pub and goes there to ask him why he killed Sam. Rocco is worried Danny might be in danger so he tells Jason that Danny went to Charlie’s pub looking for Cyrus.

It’s always great fun to speak to these actors from “Night Court!” They are hilarious. I was paired with another journalist this time, Russ Milheim of The Direct. It’s always nice to meet fellow members of the press.  We each asked very different questions, which is great. I hope you enjoy these fun interviews!

Eternally optimistic Abby Stone (Melissa Rauch) follows in the footsteps of her revered late father, Judge Harry Stone, as she takes on the challenge of overseeing the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court.

In her quest to bring order and dignity to the court and reign in its colorful crew of oddballs, Abby enlists former night court district attorney Dan Fielding (John Larroquette) to serve as the court’s public defender. Still exceedingly self-confident, Fielding must adjust to a new boss and a new job – defending the downtrodden. And, beneath his arrogant demeanor, there is an empathetic side to Fielding that Abby is determined to unearth.

They both must contend with Julianne Walters (Wendie Malick), a reformed convict and former love interest of Dan, who is the new prosecutor. A sophisticated, savvy woman and accomplished attorney who also knows how to make a shank out of a spoon, she’ll keep everyone in the courthouse on their toes. Donna “Gurgs” Gurganous (Lacretta) is the night court’s sharp-witted bailiff. Gurgs takes her job very seriously and is fiercely protective of her night court colleagues. Wyatt Shaw (Nyambi Nyambi) is the court’s clerk. He’s a jack of all trades and devoted single dad trying to make it all work as a law student at the same time.

From executive producer and writer Dan Rubin (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), “Night Court” is based on the original hit series that ran for nine seasons on NBC. Executive producers also include Melissa Rauch, Winston Rauch, John Larroquette, Mat Hawawitz, Lon Zimmet, Lindsey Shockley and Mona Garcea.

“Night Court” is produced by Rauch’s After January Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

[somber music plays]

Poppy: Finn, just stop. Stop asking these questions.

Finn: Luna isn’t my cousin. She’s my daughter. Luna is my daughter. I’m…the father. Hey. Hey, babe. What are you thinking about? [dramatic musical sting] Dr. Finnegan isn’t in yet? When do you expect him? No. No message.

Deacon: How ’bout a refill? Cup’s looking a little empty. You okay? [scoffs] Why do you ask? It looks like you had a rough night. I’m guessing with everything your daughter’s done, been having a lot of those.

You all right?

Hey. Yeah. Yeah, I’m good. You? Me? Well, I passed by your study earlier, and you were on the phone. It sounded kind of intense. Ah. Uh, yeah. That, uh… that phone call involved you. It was from the prison. Uh–please don’t tell me I have to go back to that– No, no, no, no, no, nothing– nothing like that. They were just letting me know that you had a couple of visitors. Who? Your mother…and Finn. [edgy music plays]

Ridge: Okay.

Ah. Thank you.

Welcome. Lucky for you I don’t have any patients today, otherwise, that would have been a goodbye kiss

and I’d be out the door.

Lucky, indeed. It’s not easy, is it? What? Not going into the office every day. No. But I think that’s gonna change very soon. In the meantime, I’m very happy that we’re living here together until we find something more permanent. Permanent. I like the sound of that. [soft music plays] I wanna apologize again for what happened last night. Hmm. Brooke pleading for you to take her back? You shouldn’t have to listen to any of that stuff. Well, thankfully, I only heard the tail end. But I meant what I said, Ridge. I’m confident in you and our love for each other… a permanent future. [giggling] There’s that word again– permanent. I love the sound of that more and more. I’m sorry, I– I didn’t mean for that to come out the way that it sounded. Luna’s your daughter, and… despite what she’s done, you love her.

Yes.

Yeah. Which means you’re not gonna give up on her, right? But, I mean, still, it’s gotta be hard. It’s gotta be hard living with a daughter who committed those awful crimes. I mean, Tom and Hollis, they were… they were good men. They were good friends of mine. I am sorry. Listen, I-I’m nobody to pass judgement, not with my past and my wife’s, but, still, I just– I can’t help but wonder. Wonder what? I don’t know. If Luna had had a relationship with Tom, known her father, things might have turned out very differently. Doesn’t surprise me that my mom came to visit me again, but…Finn? Why he would visit you there. Yeah. I’m surprised that he’d even wanna see me. Last night, our anniversary, it was… amazing. I love you so much.

I love you.

Even though you kept me up,

tossing and turning last night.

Yeah. Sorry. No, I just–I know there’s something on your mind. Yeah. Well, look, I really wanna hear it, but… I gotta get into the office and I wanna check up on my folks on the way, and we can talk about it tonight. And don’t you have to get to work?

Um…yeah.

Okay.

Yeah, I do. Right.

So tonight, okay? Okay. Um, tonight. How do I tell her? How do I tell her Luna’s my daughter? [mellow instrumentals] Uh, those photos are a tribute to my friends. You know, Tom was just– he was such a decent guy. I mean, he’d known some hard times, you know. He’d gone through some stuff. But, God, he had a heart of gold. You know, Luna would have known that if… you know, if you hadn’t kept her away from him all those years. I’m sorry. I don’t mean to shoot my mouth off like that. It’s– He was your friend. And her dad. I think it would have made a huge difference in her life if she had known her old man. I have to go. Um, how much do I owe you? No, no, no, it’s good. It’s, uh, on the house. Thank you. So tell me about your cousin.

Were you and Finn always close?

When we got the chance, yeah.

What does that mean?

Well, my Aunt Li. [chuckles] As you know, she had major issues with my mom. Not that she held it against me specifically, but Finn and I never really got to hang out all that much because of it, and the age difference, so… That’s probably why I looked up to him so much. I get that. He’s a good guy. So I’m guessing you like him? He’s your granddaughter’s stepdad. Oh, Kelly is crazy about him. And, uh, Finn never tried to overstep, take the place of her real father. I’m sure Liam was happy about that. Liam [sighs] still had some unresolved feelings for Steffy, so it was really tough on him to see her falling in love with another man. I will give Finn credit. He never threw it in Liam’s face, so things didn’t get really contentious. Well, not-not too contentious. Because Finn would just let it be. Right. I wish I could see him again.

I don’t suppose that you’d–

No. You know the rules. No one can know you’re here, including your cousin. Yeah. I know you said he showed up at the prison, but I’m guessing he just wanted to see me behind bars, reassure himself that I’m no longer a threat to his wife. Not that I blame him, though, after what I tried to do to Steffy.

Steffy: Ha ha, oh, my…

Ridge and Taylor: Hi. Uh, we weren’t expecting you. Yeah, well, I have to say, I’m not gonna get tired of it, just seeing you so happy. I know I say that nonstop, but– Well, you wanted us together for so long, and here we are. You can shout it from the rooftops, as far as I’m concerned. I mean, it’s no secret how we feel about each other. Just like it’s no secret how you feel about your husband.

How’d it go last night?

“How’d it go last night”?

Our anniversary.

Don’t ask her that. It’s–j–was it a good evening? That’s all you ask. Yes, it was-it was fantastic. Finn and I put everything aside, and we just focused on each other. [somber music plays] [door opens] I had to see you. I need to know what happened. Please, Finn. Tell me that you didn’t tell Steffy that Luna is your child. [dramatic music plays]

Here you go.

Thank you. When I think of you and Finn, how it all began… In a hospital, no less, waking up to a very, very sexy doctor. Yeah. And I knew he was the one, the man I was gonna spend the rest of my life with.

You knew it that soon?

Yeah. Well, what’s meant to be is meant to be, right?

Look at you and Dad.

Somehow I knew

she’d put that in.

Sure. Yeah. Of course I was gonna do that. Just thinking about everything you’ve been through, and you actually found your way back to each other, is truly amazing. What about you and Finn? You’ve faced a lot. Yeah. Yeah, we did. ‘Cause of Luna.

Yeah.

It’s still so shocking– Luna abducting you, attempting to take your life. I mean, I’m sure it’s especially hard for Finn knowing what his cousin is capable of. But you don’t have to worry about that anymore.

She’s behind bars.

Yeah. And that’s where she’ll stay for the rest of her life.

Luna: I almost cost Finn everything– Steffy, their life together. I mean, if he lost his wife, the mother of their children,

because of me…

It would have been devastating. And I’m glad you recognize that. Thankfully, though, Steffy’s fine, the kids have their mom, and everybody there is doing well. Yeah, no thanks to me. I’m sure Finn hopes I rot away in prison. I’m sorry. I know that hurts you. You’re fond of Finn. He’s family. But the reality is– You don’t do the horrible things I’ve done and expect life to go back to normal–yeah, I get that, but… it doesn’t stop me from wishing. Wishing what? That somehow Finn could see me with new eyes. When you called me yesterday, I was at the prison. I’d gone to see Luna. She wasn’t there. I know. I tried to see her too. Well, where is she, Poppy? Where’s our daughter? Our daughter. My God, I can’t even believe I’m saying that, but…[sighs] it’s my reality. Finn, please, you have to understand– No, I don’t even wanna hear it, Poppy. I just wanna know what happened with Luna. Well, I can’t answer that. You can’t…or you won’t? What are you asking? Are you purposely keeping Luna away from me? Are you and the prison officials somehow– No. No. Are you sure? Because if you are, I– I swear I do not know where she is. I swear. Doesn’t that bother you? Of course it bothers me. But I can’t get a straight answer from anyone at the prison, and obviously, neither could you. But again, you didn’t answer my question.

Why were you there to see Luna?

What do you think? All her life, Luna’s been my little cousin and now suddenly she’s my daughter. That changes everything. But it doesn’t have to if it stays between us! No, do not go there. Do not go there. I mean it. Do you really think that I’m not gonna acknowledge my own child? That I’d be able to live with myself if I didn’t do that? Thought you knew me better than that. I do! And it kills me to see you so upset. How do you think I’m gonna feel, huh? This whole thing has turned my life upside down. And I knew it would. That’s why I didn’t even want you thinking it was a possibility. Finn, I wasn’t sure back then and I was trying to protect you so you could devote your life to your dreams–medicine. And now look! You are a remarkable doctor. Yeah. What kind of father would I have been? ‘Cause you denied me a life with my daughter. You played God. You made decisions for me that you had no right to make. I deserved to be told about Luna. It was one night together– one night that never, ever should have happened. Yeah, I was of age, but you– you were older. You were my aunt. Yeah, not biologically, but still, you should have known better, been the adult. That’s exactly how you could have protected me. I’ve been trying to protect you all this time. And you certainly should have told me about the possibility of Luna, but you didn’t. You didn’t, did you? No! Now what, Poppy? What have you done? What have you done to all of our lives? [heavy music plays] I’ll never forget being in that cage– so close to death, Luna at her craziest. Like, the thought of me getting out–it didn’t seem possible.

But you never gave up.

Finn never did. He moved heaven and earth to get to me–he found me. Yeah, he did. There’s nothing your husband wouldn’t do for you and the kids. Well, thankfully, we never have to worry about Luna again. [heavy music plays] Help me! Somebody help me! Oh, my God, don’t waste your breath, Steffy. I told you, this whole building’s getting demolished. No one’s ever gonna hear you. And you’re never gonna see Finn again. No, no, no, Luna, please don’t do–Luna! Don’t do this again, please, No, no, no, no, please! Luna, no–just don’t do it again, please, no! Help me! [screaming] Help! I’m sorry. [sniffling] I hope you can forgive me someday, cousin. All those years when Luna was a baby–gone. When she was a teenager–gone. She needed a father, and I could have had a relationship with her. I am sorry. I really am sorry. I don’t want your apologies. I want those years back! I want the memories that Luna and I would have made if I would have been in her life! I understand why you’re feeling that way, but, Finn, we can’t go back. All we can do is move forward. And you still can. By focusing on your family– Steffy, Hayes, Kelly. I know how much they mean to you. Everything. They’re everything to me, and I will never take for granted how blessed I am to have a life with Steffy and our children. A life that was almost taken… away from them by Luna! Oh, my God, Poppy, do you not see what has happened? The destruction that you have caused? Two innocent men are dead. You destroyed our daughter, and I could have made a difference in her life if I was given the chance– I am certain of it. I wasn’t sure back then, and I was doing what I thought was best. It wasn’t best. It wasn’t. It wasn’t best for Luna, wasn’t best for Tom or Hollis, and it wasn’t best for me. You know who it was best for? You, Poppy! Well, you still haven’t answered me. Please, Finn, tell me– did you or did you not tell Steffy about Luna? No, I haven’t. Not yet. It was my anniversary–I didn’t think it was the right time to drop this huge bomb on my wife. But after a sleepless night thinking about how my entire life has been upended… yeah, Luna is my daughter, and I need to be honest with Steffy.

Finn, no–

I’m telling my wife, Poppy. I’m not keeping this from her. I mean, first Steffy had to accept that Sheila was my birth mother. Now I have to tell her that I’m Luna’s father? That my daughter tried to kill her too? How do I do that, Poppy? How the hell am I supposed to do that? How much more can I expect Steffy to take? [phone chimes] [dramatic music plays]

Recap written by Suzanne

Finn has a flashback to Poppy begging him not to tell Steffy that Luna is his daughter. Steffy tells him that she loved their anniversary celebration the previous night, but she wonders what kept him up all night, tossing and turning. After she goes to work, he wonders how he can tell her about Luna.

Poppy texts on her phone, sitting at the counter at Il Giardino. Deacon can tell she’s feeling down. They chat about Luna. He knows that Poppy is Luna’s mom, so she still loves her.  He wonders if Luna would have turned out differently, had she known her father (whom he thinks is Tom). Poppy has to leave, so Deacon tells her that her coffee is free. She visits Finn in his office. He wants to know why Luna wasn’t at the prison. Her only concern is whether he told Steffy or not. He yells at her more about keeping him from Luna all these years and also mentions that since she was older than him, she shouldn’t have slept with him. They both wonder why they can’t see Luna at the prison. He tells her that he will definitely be telling Steffy the truth, even though he worries about how she’ll take it.

Luna lounges at Bill’s place, but she looks a bit upset. Bill comes in to tell her that the prison called him, to let her know that both Poppy and Finn tried to see her. She wonders why Finn was there, since he never visited her before. She has deep regret and sorrow about the things she did – especially to Steffy. They talk a little about Finn and Steffy, and what a great guy Finn is.

Ridge and Taylor kiss and talk about finding a permanent place to live together. Steffy comes in, pleased to see them being affectionate together. She tells them that her anniversary celebration with Finn was great. They talk about what Steffy and Finn have been through, particularly Luna. Steffy is confident that Luna will stay in jail forever.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[light music]

[crunching]

[crunching stops]

Thank goddess. [keyboard keys clacking]

Mm. Leo, could you get me some more guava pineapple juice, please?

My pleasure.

Ah.

I could use a break from my five minutes of writing.

Mm.

Enjoy. Quietly.

Mm-hmm.

Mm! Oh. This is so good! Ooh! Leo, thank you for taking care of me after that psycho nearly killed me.

Oh, don’t mention it… or anything else.

Leo, would you come fluff my pillows, please, that way you do?

[siren wailing]

Mm.

[gasps] Hey, Mom.

Hey.

Hi.

Wow.

Oh.

Hi.

Hi.

Those are beautiful.

[sighs] I see they’re not your first.

[laughs]

God, how are you feeling?

I am feeling much better since the antidote kicked in.

I’m so glad to hear that. God, what a nightmare.

No kidding. I think your dad put on a brave face, but I think that– quite a scare, you know, seeing me collapse like that.

I’ll bet. I was pretty freaked out when Alex passed out… right after he told me he wanted to be with me. [dramatic music]

[chuckles]

[sighs]

Joy.

Hey. Hey, I was just thinking about you.

[whimpering]

Bonnie? Bonnie.

Huh?

Hey.

Oh, Johnny. Sorry. I was just zoning out. Should you be up and around? I mean, I heard about the poisoned scripts.

Oh, yeah. No, that wasn’t exactly fun, but I’ll be fine.

You sure?

Yeah, that antidote, it– it worked like a charm. They kept me overnight for observations, but I’m good to go.

Good. Mm.

How are you?

I don’t know. [chuckles] All things considered, not too bad, I guess. They just unwired my jaw, so I never thought I’d be so stoked to see a big bowl of Jell-O. [both chuckle]

Well, lime is my favorite.

Dude, no, me too!

Yeah.

Serious? [laughs] Ooh. Ah.

So…you waiting on someone or what?

No, I-I figured the orderly was gonna come back and roll me back to my room, but… I saw the elevator, and I just stopped cold.

Bad memories, huh?

I feel like Whitley King is on the other side of those doors, waiting to swallow me up, but…

I get it, all right? But look, now that Whitley’s been exposed, she can’t hurt us anymore or the show.

Yeah, I mean, Roman, I-I’m fine. I–really, I missed the whole thing. Uh-huh. Well, actually, I’m one of the lucky ones. [laughs] Yeah. I-I mean, I’m the only one who wasn’t targeted by the lunatic. [laughs] [ominous music]

Oh, my God.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

[ominous music]

What? [sighs] What? Yeah, no. No, it’s nothing to worry about at all. Just a little– a little crisis on set, yeah. Actually, I should probably go and take care of things. Listen, you have a good time in Chicago, OK? Yes, give Rex my love, and I will talk to you real soon. I love you too. Bye.

Well, hello, Kate.

Look at this. I found it on my desk.

Oh.

Oh? Oh? That’s all you can say? Because obviously, Whitley is at it again, and we need to call the police.

Easy. Easy, Kate. Whitley’s no longer a threat. She’s under 24-hour watch at Bayview.

Then how’d this get here?

Well, they–they took some photos from Whitley’s room. And they found this one on her nightstand.

[scoffs] So what did you– did you put it here? What, is this a souvenir?

I wanted you to understand the gravity of this situation because it’s up to us to figure out what to do about it.

Greetings, “Body & Soul”-ers.

Seth, wow. You’re looking good.

Thanks.

Yeah, how are you– how are you feeling?

I’m on the mend, much like you two. I’m glad I ran into you, Bonnie. It saves me a trip to your room. I have this document for you to sign.

Oh. What–what is it?

Ah, just boilerplate, saying that you hold harmless University Hospital and all of its subsidiaries regarding your accident, as well as indemnify us against any further action. And you just sign right there…

Oh.

On the bottom line.

Oh, OK.

Bonnie, I-I wouldn’t do that if I were you. [tense music] * *

So you’re not gonna be “Body & Soul’s” publicist anymore?

I realized I needed to separate my career and my personal life. It wasn’t worth losing out on being with Alex just to keep one client.

And he’s all in on the relationship?

I told him I wanted to be with him, and he responded in kind.

Well, that’s wonderful. I know it’s what you wanted all along.

Even when I didn’t want to admit it to myself. [laughs]

I’m very happy for you, baby.

The only downside is, you and I won’t be working together after all.

Oh, no. Oh, no. I was so looking forward to working with you in that capacity, even though it wouldn’t have been for very long.

Mm.

[chuckles] But listen, after what happened, I cannot complain about you distancing yourself from “Body & Soul.”

Yeah, I can’t decide if I picked the worst week to leave or the best.

Well, seeing how happy you are, I think you made the right decision.

Yeah. Yeah. There’s just one little problem. [dramatic music]

Can I ask you why you were thinking about me?

I just–I keep flashing back to how you found me last night after I passed out, how you saved my life.

Oh. I’m just glad that Stephanie and I got there when we did.

Right. Right, yeah, no, I’m super lucky that the two of you were together.

Yeah.

Alex, I’m– I’m really grateful that you were there for me.

[grunting] How’s that? Fluffy enough for you?

Oh, the edge is kind of sticking out a little bit. It’s perfect now. Thanks!

My pleasure. That’s it for now. I need to finish this story.

The story? What’s it about?

Well, it’s about Charlemagne, actually.

About me? I mean, not me. Not me, but yeah. What happens?

Well, it’s pretty juicy, actually. See, Charlemagne gets kidnapped by her former maid and replaced with an exact duplicate.

An exact duplicate?

Mm-hmm.

Is Marlena coming in for it?

Not that I’m aware of.

Oh. Who are you gonna get to– [jazzy music] You want me to play both parts?

That’s the beauty of it. Two parts, two paychecks. What do you think? It’s a home run, right?

[laughs] No, I gotta pass.

You don’t want to play two roles?

Sorry, no.

But this is every actor’s dream, Getting to create two wholly different characters with different backgrounds, different ways of speaking and behaving. It’s the stuff Emmys are made of.

I get the concept.

And you heard the part about two salaries, right? What’s not to love?

Nothing. Everything.

I’m lost.

Look, Leo, this hits a little close to home for me, OK? Everybody in this town knows I did that. I-I-I-I pretended to be Marlena. I mean, I-I-I took over her life, and I ended up in prison too.

Hattie, that’s why this is perfect for you. You get to reclaim it. And with the personal experience to draw from, you get to bring truth to the character.

Oh. And I could even add some layers to it.

Oh, so many layers.

Like a seven-layer cake.

Oh, at least.

Yeah. And, you know, I-I-I tend to go deep with my characters.

And it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Yeah. Still, the idea of replacing somebody that you look like just seems like it’s a little–

Deliciously sordid?

I was gonna say played out. Don’t you think?

No, obviously, I don’t think that, or I wouldn’t have pitched it. I think it’s classic. And the fans love when they get to see a beloved actor play something new. Look, we need something big for Charlemagne. This, this is gonna drive six months of story. [jazzy music]

You don’t have to worry. [both laugh] You are such an amazing writer.

Oh.

You’ll think of a new storyline.

They should be letting me out of here soon. I’m actually trying to push for them to let me out before tomorrow.

Really? What–what’s tomorrow?

Hello? Valentine’s Day.

Ah. Right, Valentine’s Day. I didn’t think you’d be up to doing anything. You should probably take it easy.

I’m sure I’ll be well enough to go out to dinner. And since I basically owe you everything…

Ah.

I would like to take you out.

That is not necessary.

Oh, no, I know that it hardly makes up for you saving my life, but it’s a start. [dramatic music] Unless there’s some reason that you don’t want to go out with me.

So Alex and Joy haven’t broken up yet?

Let’s just say he’s having a little trouble extricating himself from the situation.

But they weren’t dating very long, right?

No, not really.

Well, I mean, I don’t want her to be hurt or anything, but it seems like they could part ways amicably.

That’s what I was hoping for. But after everything that Joy went through with the whole Johnny mess, she’s– she’s honestly a little dependent on Alex right now.

I see.

And then after he and I decided to be together, we found her unconscious in her room.

She was poisoned too?

Uh-huh.

Oh, come on.

Yeah, but she’s doing a lot better, just like you. But Alex and I decided that maybe he shouldn’t kick her while she’s down, you know?

It’s a difficult position to be in. But, you know, I imagine she’s gonna want to go back home, right? And then maybe Alex can let her down gently and… the two of you could start your relationship.

I really hope so.

Look, I know it was a traumatic situation, but we’re in the entertainment business, and overzealous fans come with the territory, Abe.

Kate, there is a difference between passion and–and criminal behavior.

No, I-I agree. And Whitley is a really disturbed person, but that doesn’t mean that she gets to dictate how we produce our show.

You really believe that?

Yeah, I do. Yeah, the show must go on. It was a serious situation, I’m not denying that, but we’re out of the woods now, Abe.

Are you sure? Justin is still threatening to sue the hospital.

Yeah, well, his wife is the star of the show, so he’s not gonna hurt us and he’s not gonna hurt the show.

His wife nearly died!

Yeah. It’s a terrible thing. It really is. But he’s gonna calm down.

Well, what if others in the cast decide they’re gonna sue? You know, we both know that this is an untenable situation.

[sighs] What are you saying, Abe?

Well, what I’m saying is that there’s only one– one–solution to our problem.

Johnny, no offense, but you’re not directing this scene.

And I understand that. However, I’m sure that Justin, Bonnie’s husband and attorney, wouldn’t mind taking a look at this paperwork before she signs it, just to, you know, make sure everything’s aboveboard.

I assure you, everything that we do here is aboveboard. [chuckles]

To be honest, I’m actually having a hard time with all the legal mumbo jumbo.

So you’re–you’re not gonna sign it?

Let it go, Seth. She just fell down an elevator shaft.

Yeah, and you and I were poisoned. Things happen in this town. The psycho per capita rate is one of the highest in the nation. We’re accepting risk just by living here.

I’m not sure that’s really the argument you want to make.

Look, Bonnie, I know that the last thing you want to do is make things more difficult for the show, especially with all the struggles that we’ve been through lately.

Of course not.

OK, which is why you should be aware that if you and your husband were to pursue a lawsuit, the hospital would have no choice but to withdraw its permission for “Body & Soul” to shoot here.

But they rely on the hospital to be able to shoot their scenes.

They do, and I’m not sure that the show and the budget could sustain that loss. And you wouldn’t want that, would you? So why don’t you go ahead and just sign? Because all of our futures depend on it.

[phones beep]

Meeting for all cast and crew?

Did you know about this?

Well, I’ve been a little preoccupied with almost dying and all, but no, Abe and Kate didn’t say anything to me.

What do you think it’s about?

If you wouldn’t mind, you know, signing the paper. [elevator bell dings]

[gasps] Oh. [dramatic music] Oh.

Oh. They’re freaking out too.

I guess we all got that same text about the emergency meeting?

Yeah, we’re just trying to figure out what it means.

Ah. They smell amazing.

Mm, probably better than hospital disinfectant, right?

That’s for sure. [phone beeps] Oh, eek. What is it? Oh.

Ooh, don’t tell me they think you’re on call.

No, it’s from Abe and Kate. They’re calling an emergency meeting at the hospital.

Right now?

You don’t know what it’s about?

Not a clue. Wonder if Alex knows.

[sighs] You don’t–you don’t have any other plans for Valentine’s Day, do you?

Um– [phones beep]

Was that me?

I think it was both of us. Is Kate and Abe texting you too?

Yeah, yeah, emergency meeting for the cast and crew?

Yeah, here at the hospital. Wonder what that’s about.

I don’t know. But we should probably head there and find out.

You feel up to it?

Yeah. Yeah, I’m fine.

OK.

As long as I have you with me. [both chuckle]

I’ll go get you a wheelchair.

OK.

All right.

Hey, guys. I’m sure that this is just an update on Whitley King. Abe and Kate probably just want to reassure us that we don’t have to worry about any more poisoned scripts.

By the way, I will never forgive you all for believing I wrote that trash.

Hey, it wasn’t that bad, except for it being poisoned, I mean.

Please, my stories are so much better, not to mention they’re nontoxic.

Oh.

Oh.

[chuckles] Joy, it’s so good to see you. You look so much better.

Thank you, Stephanie. I’m glad to see that you’re doing better too, Dr. Johnson.

Well, I’m just so glad that we all got the antidote in time.

Yeah, I’m just–I’m grateful that Alex came when he did– well, Alex and Stephanie, that is. You were with him, right, Stephanie?

Yes, I was.

[elevator bell dings]

Oh, look. [Kate clears throat]

Hello. Hello, everyone.

[clears throat]

I want to thank you– thank you all for coming.

Yes, and first off, we want to say how grateful we are for everyone who received a poisoned script that you’re– you’re doing better and you’re on the road to recovery and that Bonnie is on the road to recovery as well.

Yes, Bonnie, Bonnie. [applause]

I-I do want to reassure all of you that Whitley King is under 24-hour watch at Bayview.

Yes, and she won’t be able to hurt any of us again.

Yay.

Good.

And we are, of course, cooperating with the Salem PD to make sure she remains locked up. I’m sure each of you will be contacted by the police soon so you can make a statement.

Well, to hell with her. When do we get back to work?

[chuckles] Hattie, thank you for that question. Actually, that’s what we wanted to talk to everyone about. This past week has been a harrowing one. Abe and I did not take any of the incidents lightly. Nothing is more important to us than the health and the well-being of our employees, which is why we decided that we couldn’t go ahead with the show unless we could be certain that we could create a very safe working environment, which is the reason that we’ve decided, after very careful consideration, to pull the plug on “Body & Soul.”

What?

What?

So you’re pulling the plug on the show? That’s it?

So it’s just– it’s just over?

Isn’t that an overreaction?

Look, we’re sorry. I-I-I know this must come as a shock.

Considering the events of the past few weeks, we just don’t feel comfortable returning to production on “Body & Soul.” We feel like it’s too dangerous. If anyone else got hurt, we couldn’t live with ourselves.

Wait, but nobody else gets a say? I mean, I’m the one who took a header down the elevator shaft, and I’m more than happy to get back on that horse.

That’s the whole point, OK? Almost everyone here spent last night in the hospital.

Yeah, but the show can’t end, not like this.

Yeah, yeah, what’s gonna happen to Charlemagne’s stor– I mean, what’s gonna happen to the story?

I–look, I’m sorry. I-I should have been clearer. But the story won’t end.

What do you mean?

Well, that’s what makes soap operas special. They never end.

But you said that you were ending it.

Are you saying that it’s continuing without you?

Is that even possible?

So when we called the network this afternoon to tell them that we would not be returning to production, needless to say, they were very upset. They love the show. It’s a top producer for them. The last thing they wanted to hear was that “Body & Soul” was ending prematurely.

Oh, man, I’m so confused. Are we ending, or are we not ending?

Well, we’re still too concerned with everyone’s safety to continue our production, which is why the network has offered to step in, buy the rights, and produce the show themselves.

So the show will go on?

Yes, yes, but not here in Salem.

Well, then where?

They’re going to bring the production to Los Angeles.

Oh, let me guess. They’re gonna replace all of us with big Hollywood stars.

No, no. They want to keep the current cast.

Oh. So we’re not losing our jobs?

No. They told us they were willing to have the entire cast come with the show as long as they were willing to relocate to California. [tense music]

Thank you.

Yeah. Wow, that’s not what I was expecting.

Me either. That must have been a hard decision for Kate and Abe. I mean, I know how much they both loved producing that show.

And everyone looked shocked.

Well, color me shocked. I can’t believe this! What?

We were just saying the same thing.

Yeah, look at me. Such bad timing. I just get on the show, and then it’s over.

Oh, wait. Are you saying you’re not taking the part?

No. Of–of course I’m not. Bonnie–Bonnie, it was just a temporary recast. I never had any intention of taking the part for real. And now that it’s shooting in California, I am certainly not going there to take it.

Oh, Kayla, thank you. Thank you. No, seriously, that is a load off. I was kind of afraid I was gonna have to fight you for it. [chuckles]

Oh. So does this mean you’re moving to LA, Bonnie?

Well, I have to talk to Justin first, obviously, but it kind of feels good to have an option. [chuckles] And if my TV son follows the show, he’s going to need a mama. [chuckles]

Did Alex say that he was following the show?

Oh, I haven’t talked to him yet. But let’s face it. I mean, he and Joy are the hot young stars. I mean, the network execs must be doing everything to try to convince him, right? [dramatic music]

Thank you.

You’re welcome. Hmm. I gotta say, that announcement took me by surprise.

It is pretty shocking news.

Mm.

But it’s–it’s not terrible news, right? I mean, the network loves the show enough to save it.

[sighs]

And they want to keep the whole cast?

And they want to move us to LA.

I know, but that’s exciting, right? I mean, I’ve–I’ve–I’ve always wanted to live there.

Yeah.

[sighs]

I mean, we’re gonna take the offer, right?

[sighs] Well, now that Pineview is picking up stakes and heading out West, what are y’all gonna do?

Well, I’m definitely going.

Just like that, huh?

Yeah. I mean, I have to. I’m the star of– I’m one of the stars of the show.

Johnny, what about you?

[sighs] Well, obviously, I need to discuss it with Chanel, but honestly, we’re just kind of getting back on track. So I-I don’t know that asking her to move across the country is the best decision for us right now.

Yeah. I’ve spent most of my life drifting from place to place, nothing holding me down. But I just fixed things with Javi. I don’t know if I want to mess that up again.

Yeah, maybe you don’t have to.

What do you mean?

Look, I’m the director, right? I have to be on set. But you could write the show from anywhere, so you could just tell the network you want to stay on as head writer and just keep writing from here. [soft music]

Here we are.

Well, I suppose that went as well as can be expected.

Did it?

[scoffs]

Everyone looked so disappointed.

Mm, none more than you.

Was it obvious?

Look, I know today is a sad day, but it’s not all bad news, right?

How do you figure?

Well, the network paid us a small fortune for the rights to the show, right? We made a tidy little profit running that thing.

It was never about the money for me. I wanted something new, rewarding. I feel very, very lucky for the experience.

Well, I loved it too.

We make a damn good team, right?

Yes, we do. And I’m telling you, I’m going to treasure all this time we had with the citizens of Pineview, allowing their adventures to unfold.

Despite all the off-screen drama, you know the good times far outweigh the bad?

They sure do. [chuckles] Like, you know, I can’t believe we actually– we actually made it happen, you know? When we started out, we had no idea what we were doing.

Oh, we had less than no idea. [both chuckle]

You know, and even though this little team is going to break up way before we thought it would, I still think that we, my friend, deserve a toast.

Well, I could not agree more. [both chuckle]

To “Body & Soul.”

Oh. To “Body & Soul.” [glasses clink] Long may she live. [both chuckle]

Mm. [soft music]

Mm.

[chuckles]

Why didn’t I know you had that bottle?

Who says it’s the only bottle? [both chuckle]

Hey, boss. Boss.

Hello, Leo.

Big news, huh?

Yes, indeed. Is there something we could do for you?

Well, first of all, I just wanted to thank you both for taking a chance on me. Writing for “Body & Soul” has truly been an honor and a privilege.

Well, you should be very proud of the work you did.

Thank you. I am. Also, I wanted to know if you had the contact information of the network brass. I wanted to ask them if they had any thoughts on the direction of the show, see if there was anything I needed to change about the writing.

Leo–

Oh, and just so you know, I’m not talking about moving to Los Angeles. I mean, not that I wouldn’t mind skipping out on these frigid winters, but Salem is home. My boyfriend is here. My best friend is here. My whole life is here.

[sighs] Leo–

And I can write from here. I don’t need to be on set. I’d just fly to LA for meetings or whatever.

OK, Leo, that’s not gonna happen.

Why not? Why can’t I write remotely?

[sighs] Because they don’t want you to write at all. [dramatic music]

Excuse me?

Leo, I’m sorry to have to tell you this, but… they’re bringing in another head writer.

Wow. So you’re all in, huh? LA, here you come?

Hey, no-brainer for me.

[chuckles]

I am Charlemagne. What about you?

I have to think about it. And I have to talk to Justin, of course. And if he couldn’t move there, well, I guess I’d have to, what, commute? I mean, come back here when I wasn’t working?

You know what? I bet they’d fly you. I bet they’d fly you first class.

[chuckles] Well, I don’t know about that. And besides, I’m in no shape at the moment to make any life-changing decisions, if you know what I mean.

Yeah, I feel you.

The good news is, Kayla said as far as she’s concerned, the part is still mine, though.

Oh, hey, that’s lucky.

Yeah, for her. I won’t have to fight her for it.

Yeah. I’ve been in a fight with you. It’s no place you want to be. [laughs]

Well, you’re no pushover, you know, yourself.

Well, thanks, hon.

[sighs]

Actually, I hope you take it.

Yeah?

Yeah. I mean, you know, just the two of us out there in La-La Land. You know, we’d be like– like Laverne and Shirley go to California.

[laughs] You make it sound pretty fun.

It does sound fun, doesn’t it?

Mm-hmm.

You know what I’m gonna do? I’m gonna just make sure that the dressing room next to mine is free, and I’m gonna– I’m gonna keep it warm for you.

[laughs]

You want to move with the show to LA?

Oh, don’t you? I mean, it’s not like you have another job.

No, but I-I got my family here.

But not your whole family, though, right?

No, but my dad, my Aunt Maggie. I got a whole bunch of cousins.

You want to stay for your cousins?

Well–

Philip, Xander.

[sighs] All I’m saying, it’s just a big move is all– for me.

Mm-hmm. Yeah, no, is this– is this really about your family, or is this about Stephanie? [tense music]

[sighs]

Do you really think Alex would go to LA for the gig?

I think that you would know better than I would.

I mean, he loves being on the show, and the fans love him.

But his life is here, and so are you.

Kayla, Stephanie.

Hi.

Sorry to interrupt.

Nope.

Nope, not interrupting. Please, what’s up?

Yeah.

I wanted you to know I just turned in my letter of resignation. I’m leaving for California.

What? I–you’re giving up the hospital to stay with “Body & Soul”?

Well, I’m afraid I have no choice. I never expected to find my passion at this point in life. But Blake Lemoray is in my blood, and if you can’t shake him…

Wow, I didn’t know you were so serious about acting.

Yeah, it’s truly a calling.

Well, good luck in California, then.

Thanks. But if you ask me, you should join me there.

Oh. [chuckles]

[chuckles]

Oh, I appreciate that, but no, my work is here at the hospital.

I’m not sure that’s gonna be for much longer.

Excuse me?

I’m sorry to tell you, but… the hospital is about to declare bankruptcy.

Update written by Joseph

Rafe questions EJ letting Jada think he left her at the altar. EJ thought he would approve, given the alternative that Arnold and Jada would be on their honeymoon. EJ feels he did him a favor and says gratitude would be nice. Rafe complains that he’s being held hostage while Jada’s heart is broken. EJ assures that Jada will see it as doing her a favor. Rafe questions it being a favor to replace her with Arnold, just so EJ can be reinstated. Rafe says it’s never going to work as there’s no way Arnold is smart enough to pull off being police commissioner. EJ points out that Rafe pulled it off. Rafe argues that Jada is a smart cop and will see through this whole scam to figure out that EJ is behind the whole damn thing.

Jada remarks to Belle that she could kill EJ right now. Belle says she’s so sorry but EJ did say he had no idea what “Rafe” would find. Jada insists the dirt was completely manufactured and asks how Belle doesn’t see that EJ is setting her up. Belle asks if she has proof. Jada says not yet but she will get it and questions Belle defending EJ. Jada says she didn’t come to debate with her and just needs to know where EJ is. Belle thinks back to EJ saying he would meet her downstairs. Belle tells Jada that she doesn’t know where EJ is and claims that she came to see Johnny, but offers to leave a message with the staff. Jada says she will convey the message herself, then she notices the passageway to the tunnels is cracked open.

Steve calls Tripp and says he’s with Brady, who would like to talk to Ava so he asks him to put her on. Tripp informs Steve that Ava is not there. Steve is sure it’s just a misunderstanding. Brady asks where the hell Ava is if she’s not with Tripp.

Kristen questions Ava saying Rachel had help. Ava tells her that there’s someone else there, who told her to call her The Woman in White. Kristen questions what she is talking about. The Woman in White then comes in and calls out to Kristen, revealing herself to be Kristen’s mother, Rachel Blake and leaving Kristen shocked. Kristen argues that it can’t be. Rachel reveals she’s alive, assuring it’s really her. They embrace as she tells Kristen how much she missed her. Kristen can’t believe she’s actually there and says she has no words. She asks what brings Kristen here. Kristen says she came looking for Ava, but had no idea she would find her. She asks why she came looking for Ava and if Rachel told her that she was there. Kristen realizes Ava was right and that she was there when she and Brady were looking for Rachel. She says it was heartbreaking not to reveal herself. Kristen explains that she found Ava’s phone in Rachel’s backpack and saw the text sent to Brady and that’s when she put it all together. Ava says they could untie her so she could leave and they can have their reunion but Rachel puts the gag back on Ava and says now they can talk.

Steve gives the phone to Brady so he can talk to Tripp. Brady asks if Tripp has spoken to Ava in the last week or so but he says he hasn’t once. Steve takes the phone back and tells Tripp that he’s sure everything is fine and that Ava must have just had a last minute change of plans. Steve promises to get to the bottom of it and tells Tripp to try not to worry as he’s got this. Brady knows Steve doesn’t want Tripp to worry, but he doesn’t think everything is fine and bets Steve doesn’t either.

Jada tells Belle that something’s not right here and points out the passageway to the tunnels being open. Belle says they were doing construction down there so she’s sure they just left it open. Jada suggests EJ could be avoiding her because he knows she’s onto him. Belle tries to tell her that she’s sure EJ isn’t down there but Jada goes down the tunnels anyway.

EJ tells Rafe that Jada is not smart nor a cop at this juncture. Rafe calls him a smug son of a bitch. EJ says if Rafe is not going to eat his breakfast, he’ll have to put the gag back on him. Rafe says screw his lousy food so EJ says he can have it for lunch then. Rafe argues that it’s only a matter of time before someone finds him and EJ gets caught. EJ then puts the gag back on Rafe and exits the room. EJ then runs in to Jada in the tunnels. Jada says she knew she was right. EJ questions what she’s doing down there. Jada says she was looking for him. EJ asks why. Jada responds that she knows exactly what he’s up to.

Steve asks Brady to see the text that Ava sent him, so Brady shows it to him. Steve reads the text and says Ava was obviously trying to put distance between them but maybe she was trying to spare his feelings. Steve says it’s possible that Ava went somewhere else and Hong Kong was a cover. Brady calls anything possible but question where Ava went if she went somewhere else.

Kristen asks her mother what happened and how she’s alive. She responds that she doesn’t even know herself as she spent years recuperating after being left for dead, then more years trying to piece together who she was and how she got there. Kristen tells her that Stefano is gone now which shocks her since she’s cut off from the rest of the world here. Kristen questions why she made this choice when she could’ve reached out to her and Peter to let them know she was alive. She says she was afraid that she’d be just trouble. Kristen cries that she could never be trouble and she’s just so happy to see her, calling it a miracle. She talks about Rachel showing up at her door and felt fate was telling her it was time to reveal herself and do whatever it takes to help her family.

Paulina goes to the police station and talks on the phone to Chanel, saying she’s glad Johnny is doing better and she’ll check in later. Paulina hangs up and approaches Shawn at the desk. Paulina thanks him for his transcript of his interview with Jada. Shawn questions her not calling Jada commissioner. Paulina knows they were close as partners, but he hopes he can put that aside as he’s counting on Shawn to ease the transition which Shawn questions. Paulina then reveals that she’s putting Rafe in as interim commissioner.

Jada tells EJ that she knows he’s setting her up to look like a crooked cop because she got him fired and he’s all about revenge. Rafe tries screaming for help, so Jada questions what that noise was.

Shawn questions Paulina appointing Rafe as commissioner and calls it a slap in the face to Jada. Shawn says when he interviewed Jada, she was shocked by the so called evidence and he believes she is innocent. Paulina hopes he’s right. Shawn asks if Rafe said who found the evidence for him. Paulina says he wouldn’t name his source but she has to believe the evidence. Shawn responds that he doesn’t believe it and never will.

EJ claims not to have heard a noise while Jada mentions hearing it again. EJ then says it’s just the construction workers down there. Jada calls him insufferable. EJ says they should go since it’s too dangerous for her down there and she can insult him upstairs. Jada points out that EJ is down there. EJ claims he was supervising and just took off his hard hat. Rafe continues to struggle with being tied up.

Brady tells Steve that he gets why Ava wouldn’t want to get in the middle of his messy family situation but questions coming up with a story and argues that they weren’t seeing each other that long, so it doesn’t make sense why she would go through all this trouble. Steve suggests Ava intended to go to Hong Kong but never made it. Brady questions her not telling Tripp at all. Steve suggests she sent the text under duress while Brady suggests maybe she didn’t send it at all.

Kristen and her mother talk about Rachel and how Kristen named her daughter after her mother. She tells Kristen how she made the family she always wanted, until Ava screwed it all up. Kristen questions if Rachel told her that. She says she thought of this as her way of making up for the time she lost. Kristen tells her that she doesn’t owe her anything as none of that was her fault and she suffered terribly. Kristen says she’s really happy she’s here, but she can’t be part of what she’s doing to Ava so she has to let her go.

Shawn argues with Paulina that Jada was his partner and the best cop he’s ever worked with. Paulina points out that he didn’t always think that way. Shawn says that’s because he was drinking then but he’s thinking clearly too. Paulina talks about Jada being innocent until proven guilty, but points out that they can’t have the people losing faith in the police department. Paulina adds that if Jada is cleared, the job will be hers again. Shawn questions why she had to give the job to Rafe after she just recently fired him. Paulina says she was impressed with Jada’s improved case clearance but now that it’s called in to question, Rafe is someone who has done the job before and has the experience and is a calm, steady hand which is what the people of Salem need. Paulina questions what Shawn has against Rafe. Shawn doesn’t like that he took a job working for EJ and that he broke Jada’s heart. Paulina tells Shawn that he doesn’t have to like it but her decision stands and orders him to get used to the new normal. Paulina adds that she has to go break the news to Jada, but Shawn asks to be the one to tell her.

EJ and Jada return to the living room from the tunnels. EJ tells Jada that he asked “Rafe” to investigate because he was concerned by incompetence from the police department after Jada was put in charge. EJ adds that he didn’t know what “Rafe” would find, but he did find that Jada put people away on trumped up charges and she is going to have to be punished. Jada says she doesn’t believe anything out of EJ’s lying mouth. EJ says it’s enough that others believe it, including Rafe. Belle comes back in as EJ tells her that Jada was just leaving. EJ tells Jada not to come back. Jada promises when she does, she’ll bring the handcuffs. EJ reminds her that they took those away from her along with her gun and badge. After Jada exits, Belle asks if Jada found him downstairs. EJ confirms that she did and claims that he was just overseeing the construction. Belle tells EJ that Jada doesn’t know about them, so she told her that she was visiting Johnny. EJ says that’s good. Belle notes how mad Jada was when she got there though. Belle brings up that Jada said EJ manufactured the evidence that “Rafe” found against her and asks if he did.

Brady asks Steve if he thinks it’s possible that someone used Ava’s phone to text him. Steve brings up Ava’s checkered past with the mob and with Clyde Weston, feeling you can never completely cut ties with people like that, so if someone wanted to cut ties, they’d only have to cover their tracks with Brady. Steve asks when Brady last spoke to Ava. Brady says she hadn’t been responding to his messages at all, but the last time they spoke, Rachel was still missing and Ava was very supportive. Brady mentions the voicemail that came with bad reception which was the last time he heard Ava’s voice. Steve asks him to play that voicemail for him, so Brady does. Brady guesses the text filled in the blanks. Steve asks what if she didn’t send it. Brady admits it’s possible that’s not what she said at all then.

Kristen’s mother questions Kristen wanting to let Ava go free and asks why she can’t keep her hostage. Kristen argues that she always taught her to do the right thing. Rachel Blake says she also taught her that nothing was more important than fighting for love and family. She talks about Kristen’s daughter Rachel being through a lot like Kristen has. She says if her parents weren’t taken from her, things would be very different so she feels Rachel deserves the family that Kristen never had. She asks if she wants Ava to be a mother to Rachel. Kristen doubts the relationship would get that far with Brady’s track record, so she’s not worried about Ava. She warns that if she frees Ava, she’ll go to the cops. She brings up Rachel saying that they were putting her in therapy for sending threatening text messages to Ava, so if they found out about her kidnapping plot, they would take her away and maybe even put her up. Kristen argues that she can’t keep Ava here forever. Her mother argues that she can take care of her until they come up with a more permanent solution.

Brady tells Steve that he has more questions and even fewer answers than he started with. Steve says he knows a few people that Ava was involved with in the past, so he will work those contacts. Brady doesn’t want to lean on him too hard but asks if he could try to enhance the audio on Ava’s message, then maybe they could figure out what she was trying to say. Steve agrees to see what he can do. Brady guesses that Steve thinks Ava might be in real trouble. Steve confirms that he unfortunately does.

Kristen questions what her mother means by a permanent solution. She says she’ll figure it out but claims she won’t harm Ava. Kristen brings up that Ava used to be her friend, so she does still have some empathy for her. She encourages that Kristen has to do this to protect Rachel as a mother, so she has no choice. Kristen then tells Ava that she’s sorry but she’s right that she has to protect Rachel. Kristen’s mother tells her that mother always knows best.

EJ tells Belle that “Rafe” was the one who dug up evidence against Jada and questions if she seriously believes he’d have Jada ousted just because she had him replaced with her. Belle hopes he’s telling her the truth. EJ hopes Belle could stay a little longer for lunch. Belle says she can’t because she has to go to work so they agree to a rain check. EJ tells Belle that he’s glad she stayed over last night. Belle admits she is too as they kiss. Belle then exits the mansion. EJ declares to himself that this is all getting too close for comfort.

Shawn goes to see Jada and says he knows he should’ve called first but he saw her car and wanted to stop by to see how she’s doing. Shawn tells Jada that he’s really sorry he had to drag her down to the station and grill her like that. Jada understands that he was just doing his job and she’s grateful it was him. Shawn is glad she’s there because he wasn’t sure. Jada responds that she’s not sure about anything anymore since “Rafe” is still at the Salem Inn and when he comes home, she guesses she’ll be moving out. Shawn wishes he could help. Shawn then informs Jada that he has some news that he wants her to hear from him first.

EJ returns to Rafe in the secret room of the tunnels. Rafe guesses it was Jada and tries yelling for her. EJ says she’s gone now, but he can’t risk having someone find him as they’ve had far too many close calls. EJ then pulls out a needle, so Rafe questions what he is doing to him.

Paulina finishes a call as Belle arrives at the police station. Paulina informs Belle that there’s a situation she wants to discuss with her. Paulina then reveals that she has installed Rafe as interim commissioner. Belle assumes Jada hasn’t heard that yet. Paulina asks if she has to defend her decision to her too, insisting it’s only temporary until all this shakes out. Paulina mentions the investigation and she hopes Jada is cleared, but if warranted, charges will be filed. Paulina says she’s only telling Belle so she can be prepared in case she has to prosecute Jada.

Shawn informs Jada that “Rafe” is police commissioner again. Jada says she shouldn’t be surprised as things keep going from bad to worse. Jada mentions that yesterday, she was supposed to marry the man she loves and now won’t answer her calls. Jada remarks that he’s taken her job and doesn’t believe in her like he’s a completely different person. Shawn brings up that Rafe was in a coma not long ago, so he wonders if it’s possible that might have something to do with the way he’s been acting. Jada says it’s possible since doctors did say he could experience personality changes, but he was completely fine until a couple weeks ago. Shawn feels it’s still worth checking out. Jada says she’s just afraid she already knows the answer and it has nothing to do with the coma. Jada thinks that Rafe doesn’t love her the way she always thought he did.

Kristen returns home to the DiMera Mansion and finds Brady in the living room. Kristen notes that he’s back so soon and asks how the therapy appointment went. Brady says it went fine. Kristen points out that he doesn’t look like it went fine. Brady assures that the therapist said it was a good first appointment and Rachel is doing fine, but he’s not so sure about Ava since he found out she’s not in Hong Kong with Tripp. Kristen asks where she is then. Brady responds that he doesn’t know but he’s afraid something is very wrong.

Rachel Blake tells Ava that she wished Kristen could’ve stayed longer but now she will look forward to her return. She tells Ava that she will get her some fresh air and wheels her out back in the chair, while EJ then drags Rafe’s body in a bodybag in to the house through the front door. EJ comments that Kristen just told him all about this place and declares that no one will ever look for him here…

Update written by Joseph

Ava dreams of Brady coming to rescue her, then wakes up and is still tied to the chair in Kristen’s old family home.

Brady goes to the DiMera Mansion where Kristen notes that they have some time before Rachel’s therapy appointment. Brady knows he’s early but says he hasn’t been sleeping well. Kristen offers him breakfast but Brady says he’s fine. Kristen doesn’t think he is fine and guesses that he misses Ava.

Jada calls “Rafe” from home and wonders why he won’t call her back.

Arnold lays in bed watching an adult film on TV in his hotel room as he ignores Jada’s call.

Jada’s call goes to voicemail, so she puts the phone down and looks at her engagement ring.

EJ calls Arnold, who says his phone has been blowing up as Jada has called like ten times and must want answers about what happened at the wedding. EJ tells Arnold well done as he heard he put on quite the performance as the heartbroken groom. EJ reminds Arnold that the next step is for him to take Jada’s place as police commissioner. Arnold remarks that he’s never been much of a 9-5 guy. EJ promises to make it very worth his while. Arnold wants more details. EJ says to trust him and asks if they have an understanding because he’s not stopping when they are this close to the finish line. Belle then returns to EJ in his room.

Ava tries screaming for help until the Woman in White enters and tells her that she’s wasting her breath because no one is coming for her. Ava insists that Brady will as she just had a dream. She informs Ava that Brady thinks she’s flown off to China, so her dream won’t be coming true.

Kristen tells Brady that she doesn’t blame him for being upset since Ava took off to China without saying goodbye to him and broke up with him over a text. Brady doesn’t want to talk about it. Kristen says his relationship with Ava isn’t her favorite topic, but she doesn’t like to see him hurt. Kristen says he can’t take it personally that Ava left because she didn’t want to come in between he and Rachel. Brady argues that they talked about it before. Kristen says it surprised her since she really thought Ava cared about him, but her feelings must not have been that deep. Kristen says he deserves better than to be treated like that as she hugs him.

EJ tells Arnold that they will talk later. Arnold says they will because he will need serious money as they hang up. Belle guesses EJ’s call was about taking Jada’s career since she just read the Spectator and it seems that “Rafe” stopped the wedding and says he couldn’t marry Jada because of a mountain of evidence against her that she’s a corrupt cop. Belle guesses all the hell that Jada has been going through is because of EJ.

Steve goes to see Jada, who informs him that Paulina has her on administrative leave while they look in to the so called evidence against her. Jada asks how this is possible that he was walking her down the aisle a few hours ago and now she’s suspected for being a dirty cop along with numerous other crimes. Steve assures that he doesn’t think she did any of this. Jada thanks Steve for supporting her, which is more than she can say for Rafe.

Arnold listens to Jada’s voicemail and laughs it off. Paulina then arrives at his door and says she has something to say to him.

Steve asks Jada about Rafe not being home. Jada says he was missing since she got home and he hasn’t responded to her messages, so maybe he’s still at the Salem Inn. Steve encourages that she is not alone and promises her name will be cleared, then Rafe will come home. Jada worries about Gabi and Javi kicking her out. Jada can’t believe this is happening since Rafe knows her as a cop and human being and she thought she knew him, but this is beyond out of character for him. Steve says that’s why they need to consider who hired “Rafe” in the first place.

Belle questions why EJ hired “Rafe” of all people to dig up dirt on his own fiancée and what would make him so sure that he would find anything. EJ claims that he didn’t know anything would come up at all but he felt obligated to at least try because of how he had been treated. Belle argues that he has an entire army of people on payroll to dig up dirt on people he wants to destroy. EJ explains that if he dug up the evidence himself, everyone would question it but if it came from Rafe, it would be beyond reproach. Belle calls that a truly despicable thing to do.

Paulina comments on “Rafe” spending the night at the Salem Inn. He says he didn’t feel comfortable going home after everything that happened. Paulina brings up the source of his information being a detective on the police department. Arnold responds that a friend of his owed him a favor. Paulina states that she will need that friend’s name.

The Woman in White calls it romantic that Ava still thinks her knight in shining armor is going to appear but doubts it. Ava insists that Brady will figure out she didn’t send the text message but she assures that it was quite convincing. Ava regrets ever mentioning China. Ava brings up that she and Brady decided they didn’t need to break up because of Rachel. The Woman in White goes over the story she made about Ava going to stay with Tripp and says that’s a better story than Ava just vanishing off the face of the Earth. Ava asks what if she made that story the truth.

Brady tells Kristen that he just wishes Ava would’ve told him that she planned on leaving, so he doesn’t understand why she didn’t come to him first. Brady adds that he tried calling but there’s no response. Brady decides to text Ava. Kristen says she will go get Rachel’s backpack together because it’s about time for them to go anyway. Kristen then finds Ava’s phone in Rachel’s backpack.

Paulina wants the name of the person who found the files for Arnold. He questions why she needs it. Paulina calls it a serious investigation with lots of evidence so she wants to know how they found it, was there an ulterior motive, and argues that Jada has a right to confront her accuser. Arnold responds that he can’t give her the name.

EJ tells Belle that he’s not sure how he became the villain in this situation when Jada cost him his job while she was cutting corners left and right to earn a promotion. Belle argues that nothing has been proven yet. EJ sees that she’s holding out hope because Jada was her champion who got her installed as district attorney, but now that she’s on leave, she isn’t around to protect her. EJ remarks that now Belle is suddenly out there all on her own, totally exposed. Belle warns EJ that his most vital organ is quite vulnerable. EJ isn’t sure he would consider that his most vital organ at the moment. Belle tells him to be careful or he might find himself totally exposed. EJ says they’ll see about that as they continue kissing and end up back on the bed.

Steve tells Jada that this has EJ DiMera’s signature all over it. Jada says that EJ did promise to retaliate but she didn’t think he would take it this far. Steve says there’s no such thing as too far when it comes to DiMeras. Jada talks about “Rafe” being sure he wouldn’t find anything and that he just wanted the extra money. Steve thinks EJ made sure “Rafe” would find something by manufacturing it himself. They agree that EJ would do it for revenge but Jada questions how to prove it.

Kristen questions why Rachel has Ava’s phone and notes that it’s not locked, so she must have disabled the passcode. Kristen sees the text that Brady just sent and the text from Ava saying she was leaving town, except she didn’t write those, Rachel did. Kristen wonders where the hell Ava is if she’s not in Hong Kong. Kristen looks further through Rachel’s backpack and finds her old scrapbook, causing her to worry. Brady then comes out and asks Kristen if everything is okay.

Ava tells the Woman in White that she’ll go to Hong Kong for real but she doesn’t believe her. Ava feels if she told anyone about her, she’d get sent back to Bayview. Ava talks about wanting to be there for Tripp’s wedding, so it would be a win-win. Ava declares that if she goes to China, she will never hear from her again and asks what she says.

Paulina questions Arnold being unable to tell her the name of his source. He says a friend of his did him a favor and he promised there would be no blowback. He says he would insist she talk to the source if he had any doubt the evidence was legit, but he saw the files and there’s no need for that. Paulina questions him believing all this about Jada. He claims he doesn’t want to and calls it devastating but says he can’t say it’s all surprising which Paulina questions. Arnold claims there’s always been part of Jada that felt like she was an impostor, trying to convince others that she was in the right place or that she deserved to be where she’s at. He thinks that kind of behavior can be dangerous, so he does believe it.

Jada asks how to prove that EJ manufactured the evidence. Steve says he has a few ideas and guesses that means Jada is Black Patch’s new client. Jada says she won’t fight him on that and thanks him. Steve decides he’ll get started after checking on Kayla at the hospital. Jada asks what happened. Steve guesses she hadn’t heard and reminds her of Whitley King. Steve says she turned out to be responsible for the tainted cupcakes and Bonnie’s accident. Jada thought she was in Bayview. Steve says that didn’t stop her from going on the attack and she sent poisoned scripts to all the cast including Kayla. Steve says they had an antidote so everyone will be fine, but he has to check on Kayla. Jada sends her thoughts. Steve assures that as soon as he’s done at the hospital, he’s on the case. Jada appreciates that and says in the meantime, she will get to the bottom of this herself.

EJ and Belle lay in bed together after having sex and jokes about hearing a noise, calling out to ask if that’s Sami. Belle reminds him that they agreed not to live in fear of her sister. EJ says it’s quite possible that she could find out from Marlena. Belle says Sami can’t do anything but have a temper tantrum. Belle points out that EJ and Sami are divorced, just like she and Shawn, so they can do whatever they want and there’s no reason to hide. EJ calls that a strong argument as they kiss. EJ tells Belle to go shower and he will meet her downstairs for pastries which Belle agrees to.

The Woman in White questions sending Ava to China and being rid of her for good. Ava tells her that she can go back to doing whatever she does here. She calls it a tempting offer but is afraid she can’t take her up on it. She says she doesn’t have much to do and no one ever comes around, so this is the most she’s spoken to a person in years. Ava questions her not letting her leave because she wants someone to chat with. She clarifies that she doesn’t trust Ava and argues that she would go to Hong Kong and then come right back. Ava promises that she won’t but she puts the gag back on Ava and says she’s already made up her mind.

Brady asks Kristen if they should get Rachel and head out. Kristen suddenly claims she’s not feeling very well and got a headache. Brady points out that they are heading to the hospital, so she can get checked out. Kristen says it’s not that serious and blames the craziness of the last few days catching up to her. Kristen asks Brady to take Rachel to her appointment while she heads upstairs to lay down. Brady then goes to get Rachel while Kristen sneaks out of the mansion.

Belle heads to the living room of the DiMera Mansion, looking for EJ. Jada then shows up and asks what Belle is doing there. Belle claims that she just came to see her nephew, Johnny and asks what brings Jada by. Jada responds that she needs to see EJ and asks if she’s seen him.

EJ brings breakfast to Rafe in the secret room of the tunnels. Rafe mocks getting tased by Rita. EJ informs him that the wedding did not happen so Rafe questions what he did. EJ informs him that Arnold outed Jada as a corrupt cop and dumped her at the altar.

Paulina appreciates “Rafe’s” honesty and can’t imagine this is easy for him. Arnold says he cares about Jada very much. Paulina feels terrible but these are very serious allegations, so she had to sideline Jada to look in to all of it. Paulina mentions having to appoint a new police commissioner, at least temporarily. Arnold thinks back to EJ instructing him to become police commissioner. He then suggests himself to Paulina, to step in for Jada.

Steve goes to the hospital and finds Brady. Steve tells him he’s so glad to hear they found Rachel and asks if she’s okay. Brady says she’s fine and they just came for a therapy appointment as part of her grand plan was running away thinking it would bring her parents back together. Brady talks about bringing Rachel to a child doctor and thanks Steve for helping Ava with the texts she was getting. Steve talks about being sure they were from Kristen while Brady explains the texts came from Rachel because she thought Ava was some type of obstacle. Brady informs Steve that Ava broke up with him and just left for Hong Kong to see Tripp, which Steve calls strange because Tripp didn’t say a word about it to him.

Kristen goes to her family home and finds Ava tied up. Ava questions how she found her as Kristen begins to untie her. Kristen reveals that she found her phone and scrapbook in Rachel’s backpack, but she doesn’t understand how Ava got there. Ava explains that Rachel called her and said she needed help, so she came to the address and immediately called Brady but they lost reception. Kristen questions Rachel doing this all by herself but Ava reveals that she had help.

Belle tells Jada that she doesn’t know where EJ is but she assumes it’s about what happened at the wedding since she read it in the paper. Jada tells Belle not to believe everything she reads as she’s completely innocent and that EJ is obviously behind this whole thing.

Rafe tells EJ that Jada is not a corrupt cop and calls him a son of a bitch. EJ is sure that the investigation will prove that she is and now he will make sure that Arnold fills the vacancy as police commissioner. Rafe argues that Arnold will never pull that off. EJ mocks him. Rafe calls him scum. EJ says he’s one giant step closer to getting exactly what he wanted.

Paulina questions “Rafe” wanting her to appoint him as interim commissioner. He claims that he just wants to do whatever he can to make a challenging situation easier and it’s up to Paulina if she has someone else in mind. Paulina admits she doesn’t, pointing out that Shawn did the job before but had a drinking problem back then. “Rafe” talks about understanding rehiring someone she just got rid of, but points out that the public know him and he’s never had any scandal so his record is spotless and he thinks that’s what Paulina needs considering Jada’s situation. Paulina admits that City Council are breathing down her neck to get somebody on the job right away. Paulina then tells “Rafe” that he’s hired.

Steve tells Brady that he talked to Tripp last week and he didn’t say a thing about Ava being there. Brady says this just happened last night and he was blindsided. Brady adds that he’d love to know Ava was okay. Steve decides he can give Tripp a call which Brady says he would appreciate. Steve calls Tripp and says he’s with Brady, who would like to talk to Ava so he asks him to put her on. Tripp informs Steve that Ava is not there.

[somber music plays]

Steffy:  Finn, I can see that something’s bothering you. What is it? Babe, you know you can tell me anything.

Finn: How do I tell her? How do I tell her Luna’s my daughter?

Liam: So, yeah, Steffy’s got the kids staying at a friend’s tonight. She wants to plan like a celebration for her and Finn. Kind of a, you know, kind of a big year for them.

Bill: Is it?

Liam: Well, yeah. I mean, everything they’ve been through– Steffy getting abducted, Finn having to find her and rescue her. Yeah, well, I hope they’re not thinking about that tonight. I mean, yeah, me too, but… then again, here I am, thinking about my kid’s mom drugged and locked in a cage. Kelly and I almost lost Steffy because of Luna. I know you’re hurt, Ridge. I am too. You betrayed me, betrayed my whole family. Well, I felt betrayed when you turned to Taylor yet again. You didn’t even let me explain why. There’s nothing to explain! I would have told you that our relationship is more important than any job. Is it? Then why’d you take the position? I’m here because of us, because this is important to me, and I’m not going to let what’s happening at Forrester

destroy everything that we had.

You know what? The Brooke that I know wouldn’t have done that, wouldn’t have taken my job with this company that I love so much. And you–what did you say? You did it for me? Really? I did. And someday you will realize that. [scoffs] Okay. But we can’t really work through this unless we’re together. We need to focus on us, on our future, and our destiny. I know this is– it’s gonna be difficult coming back from this. But it’s not like we haven’t done it before. And you don’t think showing up here’s gonna make things worse? No. I think… if you give up or you walk away when there’s a shred of hope– that would make things worse. I know you’re with Taylor now. And that really does hurt. We promised each other that we would never let anything come between us. Doesn’t matter who I’m working for. I’m completely devoted to you, Ridge. And I’m still here. I’m right here… asking you to come home. Well… wish I could say this is a surprise. [edgy music plays] You know, it’s no secret– ha, obviously– that I have my issues with Finn, but he did–he did come through for Steffy when it mattered. Yeah, I remember you gave him a pretty hard time

when Steffy left town.

Yeah. Yeah, I-I did, and I was, um, wrong about that. I-it happens. We…misjudge people, we see the worst in them. Okay, that was oddly… enlightened of you. Anyway, I just–I should have listened to Finn. He knows Steffy. He knew she wouldn’t just like skip town without calling him or the kids, and… I gotta give him credit, because he wasn’t just right about Steffy. He was right about his psychopath cousin, Luna. [heavy music plays] Larisa has the kids all night, so we have plenty of time to celebrate, okay? Yeah, but you made plans, so– Yeah, but it’s gonna be a lot of fun once we get whatever this is off of your chest. Look, I want to, honey, and I would never keep a secret from you. I just–I don’t think now is the right time. But I don’t want you to be distracted, babe. Me neither, but… what I have to tell you, it’s… it’s complicated and hard to explain. No, I just–honestly, I’m having trouble processing it myself. It’s okay. I’m here. I’ll listen. Look, whatever it is, we’ll hand it. [uneasy music plays] [mellow instrumentals] You don’t have to explain what’s going on here. It’s-it’s pretty obvious. I’m here to see Ridge. To convince him to forgive you? Forget your betrayal? It’s a misunderstanding. What don’t we understand, Brooke? You’re supporting Carter and Hope taking over the company. It’s the worst kind of betrayal. Why, because I’m working at Forrester? Steffy works there. Is that a betrayal? And Zende’s there too. He hasn’t left Forrester. Your daughter orchestrated this whole thing. She pushed Carter into it. I took the CEO position to convince Carter what he was doing is wrong, and you know what? I think he’s starting to listen to me. Doesn’t mean Ridge should. I’ve been talking to him about his regrets and the impact that it’s had on your friendship, and I think he’s starting to question his decision. What about his relationship with Hope? Are you telling Carter that’s wrong too? Are you having these conversations with your daughter? Because we’ve been talking to Steffy. She and Ridge ran Forrester Creations successfully for years and now she’s been relegated to answering to Carter and Hope. You call that a misunderstanding? Yes, I do. It never should have happened. It’s not right. Like me and Ridge being together– I suppose that’s not right either.

Ridge: Okay. We all had a say, and it’s not going anywhere, so… Brooke, maybe you should go home. I didn’t come here to argue with Taylor. I didn’t even know she’d be here. I came to see you, Ridge, and tell you that I am as committed to you as ever. I am your Logan, and that will never change. And there’s no mistake that we can’t overcome. Luna is paying for her crimes. Yeah, but she’s not paying for what she did to you.

Bill: Yeah well, not a big deal, all things considered, right?

Liam: Uh, okay. I get– It wasn’t murder. It wasn’t kidnapping. But she still convinced you she was your daughter. You were about to make her a Spencer. All right, Liam, thank you for your concern, but I’ve moved on from all that.

Really?

Yeah. How? How have you moved on? Look, I’m not s–look. You don’t have to do the show for me. It wasn’t just you that Luna tricked, right? It was everyone. It was Finn and Steffy. Finn’s her cousin, right? She was in their home. She was interacting with their kids. And then she kidnaps Steffy and threatens her life. I don’t like thinking about what could have happened there. Then don’t think about it. Luna is not a danger to anyone anymore. Yeah, but only because she’s in prison where she belongs. Sorry. This isn’t how you wanted tonight to go. Hey, I’m spending the evening with you. That sounds like the perfect anniversary to me. You don’t wanna get into some heavy conversation, honey. Well, maybe we don’t have to do that.

Maybe you just need to…

Ha. …just say it. Get it off your chest. Finn, I can tell it’s bothering you.

It’s really weighing on you.

I know. Sorry about that. No! No, don’t be sorry. Or worry. Finn, come on. There’s nothing we can’t overcome. Tonight’s proven that. That’s why we’re celebrating. Look, our love for each other has just gotten stronger and stronger. Our family, our bond, our commitment is forever. Nothing is gonna tear us apart, okay? Or spoil our evening. You’re right. Tonight’s about us. And everything that we have overcome. So I don’t wanna spoil it either. But you said there’s something I need to know, and now… now you’re not gonna tell me? [heavy music plays] Well, I’m sorry you had to walk in on that. I wasn’t being flip when I said I wasn’t surprised. I guess I wasn’t either. Hard to hear? Brooke’s tears can be pretty effective. I was hoping maybe she’d say something else, you know, show some remorse. Ridge, this is what Brooke does. She goes too far, she lets you down, and then when the consequences roll in, she begs and cries and tells you it’s all some big mistake. Well, taking the CEO position– that was a mistake. But she doesn’t see it that way. No, ’cause she thinks she’s helping me. You don’t need help. You don’t need someone to argue your case with Carter. You needed Brooke to be your partner. And she did the right thing when she first heard about Hope’s plan. But when she took that CEO position, she became a part of it. It is shocking that she doesn’t understand that. She can’t see what this is doing to you. Brooke has no idea how much she’s betrayed you. [moody music plays]

Brooke: I just know our connection… it’s always there, no matter what. We have an unbreakable bond, Ridge. And I am still willing to fight for that.

Bill: This has been great, but as much as I love

spending time with my son…

Liam: Oh, my God!

…I’ve got a million things–

You’re giving me the heave-ho! That’s not what I’m doing. It’s just that I’m busy.

Oh, really. Oh, you’re busy.

Yeah, I’m busy. What’re you busy with? Tell me what you’re busy with. With anything other than being analyzed. Okay, listen, you know how much I appreciate you, right? You know that. Yes, I do. I just– You’ve been a little hard to get a hold of lately, and it’s not just me, Will too. We feel kinda disconnected from you, and we’re trying to figure out what’s going on.

That’s all.

Liam, look. You’re my right hand. I trust you with the business. I-I watch you raising my-my granddaughters, and I-I marvel at it. I’m so proud of you. I don’t ever want you to feel like you don’t have a place in my life. But right now, there’s something I need to take care of. I’m not gonna push. I’m gonna respect your privacy, okay?

Yeah. Great.

All right. As long as it’s not another woman from your past with a psychopath daughter who also happens to be Finn’s cousin. Just… [footsteps retreat] [door opens, closes] Babe, if there’s something I-I need to know… Look, there is. All right? But look. The one thing… that I always want you to know is how much you mean to me. Okay. Well, I’m serious. You can tell me. And so am I. We both have so much going on with our lives at work, with our families, but nothing… nothing is more important to me than you and the kids. Okay? You’re my entire world, my motivation for everything. I mean, every decision that I make, I think about how it would affect you and us and this… this amazing life that we have built together. So just… just promise me that you’ll never forget that, okay? Of course not. You’re my world too. [soft, dramatic music plays] [somber music plays] Brooke! I don’t want to spend another day…without you. Will you be my Logan forever? Yes, of course! [romantic music swells]

Brooke: I’m not giving up, Ridge. I’m never giving up on us. You know, there was a time… walking in on you and Brooke would have made me pretty insecure. Mmm. But not anymore. I’m a different person. No. You’ve never seemed more like yourself. Just stronger. You’ve always been strong. For your friends, for your family, for me. Your patients. People rely on you. I can rely on you too. You know, Ridge, these past few months, what we’ve been through together, you helping me heal… it’s just really rebuilt my trust. I believe in your love for me and our future together. [soft guitar music] Everyone’s got their opinions, Luna. No. Everything that Liam said is true. I did all of those horrible things, and it makes me sick too. Finn and Steffy were always so good to me, but I was so focused on this-on this fantasy, this idea of this perfect father, that I turned on my actual family. How could I do that? Especially to Finn who I love and respect so much. I know how much you love me. I feel it every day. Good. [light laugh] But our love is more than a feeling. It’s a force. When I think about everything we’ve been through, I’m amazed by the love–it’s carried us through everything. No matter the conflict, no matter how intense, our love has always been stronger. And yes, our relationship, it was stretched to its limits, but it never broke, Finn. You saved me. Twice. First with Sheila and then with your crazy cousin Luna. [exhales] Hey, what is it? You’re so precious to me, and I would hate for anything to ever come between us again. I mean… you have been through so much. Look, nothing could be as bad as what we’ve already faced, okay? We’re good now. You’re everything to me. You’re my entire world, honey. Hey. I’m, um, I’m gonna go to the bedroom and maybe we can, uh, finally celebrate our anniversary? Tomorrow, sweetheart. I’ll tell you I’m Luna’s father tomorrow. [intense music swells]

Recap written by Suzanne

Cyrus lurks at the hospital, watching Elizabeth. Ric welcomes Liz back to work with flowers. He fills her in on facts about Cyrus being on parole and flirts with her. He invites her for a walk, so they go. He warns her to be very careful around the hospital because Cyrus is dangerous. She tells him that she can take care of herself and adds that she has Lucky.

Kristina arrives at Kelly’s. Josslyn asks her to take Avery and Donna to the park, so she does. Cyrus comes by, so Josslyn apologizes to him for accusing him of killing Dex. She says that the police don’t think he did it, so she’s going to trust them. Cyrus is stunned and stammers. He leaves but then watches her in a creepy way through the window. Later, someone named Colette brings Josslyn a message from Agent Brennan – it’s the address of a place that Austin bought a cabin right after Cyrus got out of prison.

Trina and Ava take a walk in the park. Ava is annoyed that she can’t sell off her extra real estate. Trina tries to get her to have a more positive outlook. Ava asks her about why she’s not going to the hospital any more to visit Kai. Trina shares that Kai asked her to back off. Kai shows up, so Ava leaves to get coffee. Trina blames herself a little for Kai’s injury, but both Ava and Kai tell her that it wasn’t her fault. Kai tells her that he just got out of the hospital today. He apologizes to her for taking his problems out on her. He wants them to get to know each other better. They take off.

Ava sees Avery in the park with Donna and Kristina. Ava and Avery hug. Ava wants Avery to come see her new apartment, but Kristina objects. Elizabeth and Ric arrive, so Ric takes Ava back to her place. They argue. He doesn’t think it’s a good idea for her to be taking Avery away without permission. They argue. She talks about how she’s lost so much. He offers to take her case for her, for free. She suggests that he go back to Elizabeth, but he says that she doesn’t want him. They end up kissing passionately and tearing each other’s clothes off.

Nina tells Carly that they have to do something to protect their grandchildren from Drew. After Nina goads Carly, Carly admits that they should do something, but they have to be very careful so that Drew won’t suspect anything. Nina agrees. Carly asks her how far she’s willing to go. Nina just wants them to find a way to get rid of Drew. Nina admits to Carly that she’s sad about Michael and Willow breaking up.

Jason arrives at the Quartermaine mansion, looking for Willow. Tracy is there and tells him where Sasha went. She gives him a hard time for knocking Sasha up, but he doesn’t know what she means. Later, Tracy is leaving a message for Martin about Michael’s divorce when Carly enters. She hangs up the phone and tells Tracy that they have to stop interfering. She admits that it was a mistake to confront Drew. Tracy’s suspicious when Carly says they have to trust Michael. She tells Carly to make Drew hurt.

Willow and Sasha have a brief run-in. Martin comes in. Felicia meets with Cody. She makes Cody and Sasha sit down together. Cody admits that he was wrong to blab all over town about Jason being the father of Sasha’s baby. He tells her that he cares for her. She knows that he cares and that he wouldn’t hurt her intentionally. She wants to raise the baby on her own, and he has to respect her choices. Felicia reminds them that they have to put family first and forgive each other. Sasha forgives him. He apologizes again. Just then, Jason comes in. Cody gets up and demands loudly that Jason step up and admit that he’s the father of Sasha’s baby. Sasha and Jason exchange looks. She has a pleading look on her face.

Martin meets with Willow nearby. He asks her if she’s sure that she wants to go through with divorcing Michael. She tells him that the marriage is over. He urges her to fight back, since Diane is playing hardball. Nina comes in and tries to get them to delay responding, so they can compromise with Michael when he returns. Martin points out that since Willow is the one who cheated, Michael will have more ammunition when it comes to custody. Otherwise, they need to find something on Michael.

Transcript provided by Suzanne and Thane

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

You let Jada think that I dumped her at the altar?

I thought you’d approve, given the alternative that Feniger and Jada would be in the honeymoon suite with Barry White on the stereo. [chuckles] Come on, Rafe. I did you a favor. A little gratitude would be nice.

Gratitude? Gratitude. I’m being held hostage, and Jada’s heart is broken.

In the long run, I’m sure she will see that I did her a favor.

Favor how? Favor what? By having her pushed out, replaced by that son of a bitch Feniger all so you could be reappointed as DA? Is she gonna see that as a favor, too?

[sigh] I am consistently disappointed by your inability to see the bigger picture.

You know what? Forget it. Forget it, because it’s not gonna work. There’s no way Feniger is smart enough to pull off being police commissioner.

Hmm. Well, you got away with it for long enough. [snicker]

And Jada’s a smart cop. She’s a smart cop, and she’s gonna see through this whole scam and figure out that you are behind the whole damn thing. – I could kill EJ right now.

Jada, listen, I am so sorry that this happened to you, but EJ did say that he had no idea what Rafe was gonna find when he hired him to–

When he hired Rafe to dig up dirt on me, you mean? And lo and behold, dirt was found. And it was completely manufactured. It’s clear that EJ is setting me up. How do you not see that?

Look, I feel you. I do. Do you have proof?

No, not yet. But I will get it. My God, Belle, why are you defending EJ, especially after I advocated for you to become DA?

I’m not defending him, and I know you did.

Belle, I did not come here to debate with you. I just need to know where EJ is. [tense music]

Now you go and have a shower. I’ll have Cook bring us some pastries, and I’ll meet you downstairs.

Sounds like a plan.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Jada, listen, I don’t know where EJ is. I told you I came here to see Johnny. But I can leave a message with the staff if you want.

I’ll convey the message myself. Thank you.

Hey, son. How are you doing? No, no, no. Everything’s fine. I’m just here with Brady, and he’d like to speak to your mom real quick. Can you put her on? What? She’s not there? No, no, no, I’m sure it’s just a misunderstanding or something. Hold on a second. Tripp says–

Yeah, yeah, I heard. If Ava’s is not with Tripp, then where the hell is she?

What do you mean Rachel had help?

There is someone here.

Who? The Parrot Man?

No. She said to call her the Woman in White.

Woman in–what are you talking about?

Kristen, my love? Is that you? [soft dramatic music]

Mother? It can’t be. You–

I’m alive, Kristen. Touch me. Take my hand. It’s really me. Oh, dear God, I’ve missed you so.

Mother.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Oh, my God, I can’t believe this. I mean, like, I can’t believe that you’re actually here. Oh, Mother, your scars.

Fixed, long time ago.

I don’t have the words. [soft dramatic music]

I hate to interrupt this little reunion, but I–

Then don’t. What brings you here, my darling girl?

I came looking for Ava. And I had no idea that I was gonna find you.

Why are you looking for Ava? Did Rachel tell you she was here?

Uh–Ava was right. You’re the one…? You were here when Brady and I were looking for Rachel, weren’t you?

It was heartbreaking not to reveal myself to you then. But you haven’t told me how you–

Oh, oh.

Came to–

OK, well, oh, God. I found Ava’s phone in Rachel’s backpack. And when I saw the texts that she sent to Brady to make him think that Ava was in China, I started putting things together. We found Rachel here. So I figured that Ava–

Was what? A kidnapping victim? Because I’m sure as hell not on vacation.

Mother.

You know, if you untie me, I will be on my merry way, and the two of you can continue this little mommy-me play date.

Or I could do this.

Come on–ugh.

There. Now we can talk. [chuckles]

Can I talk to him?

Sure. Hey, son. Here’s Brady.

Hey, Tripp. Listen, have you even spoken to your mother in the last week or so? Not once? Yeah. Yeah, well, she texted me and told me she was coming to visit you, so I just assumed–

Hey, give me the phone back.

OK, hold on one second.

Please, please. Son, listen to me. I’m sure everything is fine. I bet your mom just had a last-minute change of plans, OK? Now–look, yes, and I’m gonna get to the bottom of this, I promise you. And I’ll call you as soon as I hear anything. You do the same, OK? In the meantime, try not to worry. I got this. OK. I love you too, buddy.

Steve, I know you don’t want your son to worry, but I don’t think everything’s fine. And I’ll bet you don’t either.

Something’s not right here.

What do you mean?

Isn’t that the passageway that leads to the tunnels under the house? Why is it ajar?

Oh, no, They’re doing construction down there. I guess something got damaged when Connie Vininski was holding Gabi and Melinda. So I’m sure a construction worker just left it open.

Or maybe EJ is avoiding me because he knows I’m on to him.

Wait, what? No, Jada, I’m sure he’s not– I know he’s not down there.

Your faith in Jada is touching, but she is neither smart nor a cop at this particular juncture.

You smug son of a bitch.

Look, if you’re not going to eat your breakfast, I’m going to just have to gag you again.

Screw you. Screw you and your lousy food.

Fine. You can have it for lunch. I’m sure it will be way more appetizing then.

Someone’s gonna find me down here, you know. It’s only a matter of time before you get caught.

Mm. [tense music]

Jada.

Here you are. I knew I was right.

That would be a first. What are you doing down here?

Looking for you.

Fine, you found me. Now tell me why.

You know why. I know exactly what you’re up to, EJ. [soft dramatic music]

Can I see that text Ava sent you?

Sure.

“Sorry I haven’t returned your calls. “I just landed in Hong Kong. “I hope you got my voicemail last night. “The reception wasn’t so great at the airport. “In case it didn’t go through, “Tripp called and invited me to visit him and Wendy. “I decided to take him up on the offer “because I’ve missed my son terribly, “but also because I thought if I left town, “maybe Rachel would return home. “Despite what you’ve said, I believe I’m coming “between you and your daughter. “Therefore, I think it’s best if I stay here for a while. I hope you understand.”

I don’t think you have to read between the lines to get what that’s all about.

Well, she was obviously trying to put some distance between you two. But maybe she was trying to spare your feelings–

Yeah, ’cause breaking up with me via text, that didn’t hurt my feelings at all?

No, I’m just saying it’s possible she went somewhere else. Hong Kong was a cover.

Anything’s possible. But, Steve, if she did go someplace else, then where?

Where were we, sweetheart?

I was gonna ask you, um, what happened? I mean, how is it that you’re alive?

I wish I could tell you. I don’t even know myself. After I was left for dead, I spent years recuperating in a French sanitarium and then more years still trying to piece together who I was and how I got there. I mean, Stefano, of course, survived, went on to his old life again.

He’s gone now. But–you have heard, I’m sure.

The Phoenix is dead? I don’t believe it.

Mother, you– you really don’t know?

Oh, no, I’m cut off from the rest of the world here in Aremid. Well, at least I was.

Wha–why did you make that choice? I mean, you know, you could have reached out to me and Peter– just let us know that you were alive.

I was afraid that I’d be just trouble.

Oh, Mother, you could never be trouble. I mean, I’m just so happy to see you. I mean, look at this. This is a miracle. [laughter]

Not as happy as I am to see you. When little Rachel showed up on my doorstep, she just showed up there, and I realized that fate was telling me that it was time to reveal myself and do whatever it takes to help my family.

I’m glad– I’m glad Johnny’s doing better. You tell him take it easy. I’ll check in later. Yeah. Love you, baby. Detective Brady, thank you for the transcript of your interview with Jada Hunter.

Is that what we’re calling her now? No more–no more “Commissioner?”

Look, I know that you’re close to her, Detective Brady. After all, you were partners. But I’m hoping that you can put aside personal feelings. I’m counting on you to help ease the transition.

What transition?

I’ve put an interim commissioner in the job– Rafe Hernandez. [tense music]

What exactly do you think I’m up to?

I know you’re setting me up to look like a crooked cop because I got you fired. And nothing gets your adrenaline flowing more than revenge.

[grunting] [cries out]

What was that noise?

You appointed Rafe as commish? I mean, talk about a slap in the face to Jada.

It wasn’t intended as such.

Look, when I interviewed her yesterday, she was genuinely shocked at this so-called evidence. And for the record, I believe that she’s 100% innocent.

And I truly hope you are right.

Did Rafe say who at the PD leaked this information to him?

No. He wouldn’t reveal his sources. But if Jada’s own fiancée believes that she’s a dirty cop, then I have to take these allegations seriously. I have to believe that they’re credible.

Yeah, well, I don’t. And I never will.

Noise? I didn’t– I didn’t hear any noise. [muffled cry]

There it is again.

Oh, um, of course. We have workers down here doing repairs– hammering, drilling, you name it, morning, noon, and night. I’ve learned to tune it out. I wish I had that option with you.

God, you are insufferable.

Mm, one woman’s opinion, but not shared by all, I’m happy to say. But we should go. It’s too dangerous for you down here. You can insult me to your heart’s content upstairs. Come on. Let’s go.

You’re down here.

Well, I was just supervising. I just took off my hard hat. Shall we go?

Don’t touch me.

Look, I get why Ava wouldn’t want to get in the middle of my messy family situation. But to come up with this story about her leaving town?

Well, maybe she didn’t want you to follow her.

Steve, we haven’t even been seeing each other that long. It doesn’t make any sense why she would go to this trouble to just cut ties with me.

Or maybe she had every intention of going to China, but she never made it there.

Without telling Tripp that she was coming?

Or maybe she sent that text under duress. Or…

Or she wasn’t the one that sent the text at all.

Our little girl looks so much like you when you were her age. My heart melted when I saw her. And when she said her name was Rachel– [laughter]

I always knew if I had a daughter that I was gonna name her after you.

You made the happy family that you always wanted.

We are a happy family. I mean, at least we were.

Until she ruined it all.

Is that what Rachel told you?

More or less. I obviously took her feelings very seriously. And I thought it was a chance for me to make it up to you and Peter for all the years I missed.

Mom, you don’t owe me anything. None of that was your fault. You, hey, you suffered terribly. I’m really happy that you’re here, but–

But what, darling?

I–I can’t be party to what you’re doing to Ava.

What do you mean?

Mama, you have to let her go. [tense music]

Jada was my partner. She’s the best cop that I’ve ever worked with. She’s–she’s honorable. She’s kind.

You didn’t always think this way.

Yeah, because I was drinking then. But I’m not now. So I see things much more clearly.

Look, Jada is innocent until proven guilty. And I hope to hell that her name is cleared. But until we finish investigating, we cannot let the people of Salem lose confidence in our police department. Now, if Jada is ultimately cleared, the job is hers again.

Good. Good. I’m glad to hear you say that. But answer me this. Why did you have to give it to Rafe in the interim?

You think it should have gone to you?

No, no, I don’t think that at all. I just–you just recently fired him.

I was impressed with Jada’s improved case clearance rate, but now that that’s been called into question–look, Rafe has done the job before. He’s respected in the community. But now is not the time to put in someone with no administrative experience in the job. Now, Rafe, he’s the calm, steady hand. That’s the wheel that the people of Salem, they need right now.

Is he, though?

What do you have against Rafe?

Look, I just– I just don’t like the fact that right after you let him go, he went and he took a job working for EJ, and– and he broke Jada’s heart.

Well, you don’t have to like it, Detective, or any part of it. My decision stands. Now, I expect you to get on board with the new normal around here, and you rally the troops that work for you. That’s an order.

Yes, ma’am.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go and break this news to Jada.

Look, Madam Mayor–

Yes?

Look, if you don’t mind, I’d like to be the one to tell her.

Jada, I’m going to level with you here. I asked Rafe to investigate because I was suspicious of the Keystone Kops’ astoundingly improved competence after you were put in charge.

Could it be that I was good at my job?

So was Rafe, supposedly. But your numbers were an outlier. And it’s not like I knew what Rafe would find. But what he did find is that you put people away on trumped-up charges, and for that, you’re just going to have to be punished.

I don’t believe anything out of your lying mouth.

Well, it’s enough that a lot of other people believe it, including your former fiancé. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I haven’t finished my breakfast.

Oh, there you are.

Ex-Commissioner Hunter was just leaving. Goodbye. Don’t come back.

I promise, when I do, I’ll remember to bring the handcuffs.

Except they took those away from you, didn’t they, along with your gun and badge?

EJ.

What?

Did she find you downstairs?

She did. I just went down to check on the construction.

Huh. Yeah. I’ve wondered where you went. By the way, Jada does not know about us. I told her I was here visiting Johnny.

Good. Good.

She was hopping mad when she got here, though.

And she was like that when she left, as you could see.

So, EJ, she said that you actually manufactured the evidence that Rafe found against her.

I’m well aware of what she believes.

Well, did you?

You think it’s possible that someone used Ava’s phone to text me?

Look, man, we both know about Ava’s checkered past. She’s been involved with the mob, with Clyde Weston’s people.

Yeah, but she cut ties with all those people.

You can never completely cut ties with people like that. And if one of them wanted her to disappear with Tripp away, the only person they’d have to cover their tracks with is you. When was the last time you spoke to her?

I don’t– I mean, like I said, she hasn’t been responding to my messages at all.

Did you have a fight or something?

No. No, the last time we spoke, Rachel was still missing, and Ava was very supportive of the whole thing, and a little while later, I get this voicemail from her, but the last part of it was just garbled. It was like she lost reception or something.

And that was the last time you heard her voice?

Yeah.

Can you play that voicemail for me?

Sure. – Brady, it’s Ava. You need to call me back as soon as you get this. [static buzzing, line crackling] But, look, technically, the text she sent me kind of fills in the blanks on that– that garbled part, right?

What if she didn’t send it?

Then it’s possible that that’s not what she said at all.

You want to let Ava go free?

Mother, you can’t keep her hostage.

Why not?

Why not? You’re the one who always taught me to do the right thing. Not that it completely took, but still.

But I also taught you that nothing is more important than fighting for love for family. Remember?

Yes, yes, and that part definitely took.

Because Rachel is such a bright, spirited girl. But I take it from what she said. She’s–she’s been through a lot.

She has, Mother.

And you’ve been through a lot, too, Kristen. If your father and I hadn’t been taken from you, things would be very different.

I suppose they would be.

Don’t you think that that girl deserves the family you never had? Do you want her to be a mother to Rachel? Because Rachel certainly doesn’t want that.

I doubt that relationship would even get that far, given Brady’s track record. I am not worried about Ava. And you shouldn’t be either, Mother.

But I am. Kristen, if you free Ava, she will go to the cops. And if she turns me in, so be it. But your darling girl told me that you were going to put her in therapy for sending threatening texts to Ava. I mean, what would they do? What would happen if the authorities found out she was– she was somehow all mixed up in a kidnapping plot? They’d take her away from you, I’m telling you. They might even put her away.

But you can’t keep her here forever.

No, I know. You’re right. But at least I can take care of her for the time being.

And then what happens next?

Well, then we can come up with a more permanent solution. [dramatic music]

God, I got a lot of questions still, Steve, even fewer answers than I started with.

Yeah. Listen, I know some of the people Ava was involved with in the past. I’ll work those contacts.

Thank you. Thank you. And listen, I don’t mean to lean into you too hard here, but is there one other thing you could do for me?

Name it.

Could you try to enhance the audio on Ava’s message? Then maybe we could figure out what she was trying to say before the reception went bad.

Yeah, send me the voicemail. I’ll see what I can do.

Great. You think she might be in real trouble, don’t you?

Unfortunately, I do. [tense music]

A more permanent solution? What does that mean, Mother?

I’ll figure it out. I can be very creative.

Ugh. You’re not gonna harm her.

Oh, pfft, no, not me, villain though she may be.

OK, Mother, she used to be my friend.

Used to be?

Yes, I mean, we had a falling out, and I do still have some empathy for her.

I understand. But, Kristen, listen. If there’s one thing that Stefano gave you, it’s the DiMera spine. You have to do this to protect Rachel. You must. You’re a mother like me. And that commitment, that sacred commitment, means that you have no choice.

I’m sorry, Ava. But she’s right. I have to protect Rachel.

There. I told you, my darling daughter. Mother always knows best.

Belle, the one who dug up the evidence against Jada was Rafe. He verified it himself. And do you seriously believe I would have Jada ousted merely because she had me replaced with you?

All right. I, uh, just hope you’re telling me the truth.

I just hope that you could stay a little longer, maybe have some lunch, and then afterwards, we can have a bit of a siesta?

Mm, I can’t. I have to go to work.

Oh, stinging words for a man who could spend the entire day in his robe. How about a rain check?

Sure.

And, uh, for the record, I’m glad you stayed over last night.

Well, for the record, me too. [soft music] [smooch]

Oh, this is all getting too close for comfort. [tense music]

Hey.

Shawn.

Look, I know I probably should have called first. But I saw your car out front, and I just wanted to stop by and see how you’re doing. Can I come in?

Sure.

Peace offering. I’m, uh, really sorry I had to drag you down to the station and grill you like that.

I understand that you were just doing your job. I’m grateful it was you.

Well, I’m glad you’re here. I, uh, wasn’t sure.

Well, join the club. I’m not sure about anything anymore. Rafe is still at the Salem Inn, and when he comes home, I guess I’ll be moving out.

Look, I’m sorry. If there’s anything I can do to help, I… Jada, speaking of Rafe, I, um– I have some news. And I wanted you to hear from me first.

That was Jada, wasn’t it? She’s here. Jada! Jada!

Save your breath. She’s gone. But I can’t risk someone finding you here. We’ve had far too many close calls.

What the hell is that? What are you doing to me?

[chuckles]

I want an answer by close of business. Belle, I’m glad I ran into you. There’s a situation that I want to discuss with you.

OK.

I’ve installed an interim commissioner in the job, Rafe Hernandez.

Wow. Uh, I assume Jada hasn’t heard the news yet.

Do I have to defend my decision to you, too? It’s only temporary until we see how all this shakes out.

And I assume you’re gonna be conducting an investigation?

Yes, yes, I am. And I do hope that Jada is cleared. But, you know, if it’s warranted, charges will be filed. Now, I’m only telling you this so that you can be prepared in case you have to prosecute her. [tense music]

So Rafe is back at his old job. You know, I shouldn’t be surprised. Things just keep going from bad to worse. You know, just yesterday, I was about to marry the man that I love. And now he won’t even take my calls. He’s taken my job. He doesn’t believe in me. I don’t understand any of it, Shawn. It’s like–it’s like he’s a completely different person. [sighs] What? What are you thinking?

Rafe was in a coma not long ago. Do you think that maybe it’s possible that maybe that might have something to do with the way he’s been acting?

The coma? It’s possible. When he first woke up, the doctors did say that he might experience some personality changes.

I mean, that right there, that might– that would explain a lot.

Yeah, but he was totally fine up until a couple of weeks ago, long after he had got better.

Still, it’s worth checking out, right?

Guess so. And I’m just– I’m just afraid that I already know the answer and that it has nothing to do with the coma. I just think that, uh– I don’t think Rafe loves me the way that I always thought he did, you know? [somber music]

Hey. Uh, you’re back so soon.

Yeah, I brought Rachel back. She’s in the kitchen.

Well, how did the, uh, therapy appointment go?

It went fine.

Fine. Well, you don’t look like it went fine.

The therapist said that she had a good first appointment. Rachel is doing well. I’m just not so sure about Ava.

Ava? Well, what do you mean?

I found out she’s not in Hong Kong with Tripp. [tense music]

Where is she then?

Kristen, I don’t know. But I’m afraid something is very wrong.

I do wish my daughter could have stayed longer. But now I have something to look forward to– her return. And as for you–

[muffled speech]

Oh, now, now, time for our daily constitutional. Let’s get some air.

[grunting] Well, Rafe, welcome to your new abode. [grunting] [sighs] How fortuitous that Kristen told me all about this place the other day– uninhabited and so far off the beaten path that no one’s gonna look for you here.

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

Cat has lunch with Felicity in the town square. Cat tells her that she went to visit Mark today. Felicity says she misses him. Cat talks about knowing how upset she is that Mark is in prison, especially since he was trying to save their mom, but not everyone sees it that way.

Chad enters the living room of the Horton house where Julie had fallen asleep in the chair. Chad asks how she’s doing. Julie says she’s as alright as she can be. Chad apologizes for being gone so long. Julie assures that his kids were angels for her and mentions that JJ and Doug III put them to sleep while she wasn’t much help. Chad is sure that’s not true and asks Julie how her session with Marlena went. Julie says it was fine but she appreciated that Marlena didn’t pressure her about going back and left it up to her if she wants to return. Chad asks if she will go back and if it helped.

Xander goes to the hospital to see Sarah and invites her to a late dinner. Sarah wishes she could but says it’s been the craziest day. Xander asks how so. Sarah informs him that a bunch of people were poisoned, including his cousin Alex.

At Stephanie’s apartment, Alex kisses Stephanie and calls it well worth the wait. Stephanie agrees and jokes that she would’ve kissed him even if he hadn’t almost died. Stephanie says she’s glad that’s over. Alex comments on how bad it would’ve been if he kicked the bucket right before they were going to be together. Alex really wishes he didn’t have to break the news to Joy about them. Stephanie feels bad for her since she’s had her heart broken enough times to know that a relationship ending can feel like your life is ending too…

Joy remains passed out from the poison on the bed in her hotel room.

Alex hopes Joy doesn’t take it too hard since they’ve only been dating for about a month. Stephanie gets a text from Steve with an update on Kayla since she was poisoned too. Stephanie says Kayla is alright but they are treating her at the hospital and keeping her overnight. Alex says it’s no coincidence that he and Kayla were both poisoned in the same night. Stephanie explains that the paramedic said it happened to several Body and Soul cast members that received fake scripts. Alex calls it crazy that he was going over his script with Joy. Alex then realizes that means Joy was poisoned as well, so he calls her.

Joy remains unconscious on her bed as her phone rings nearby with Alex’s call.

Sarah tells Xander that they thankfully had the antidote in the lab so they haven’t lost anyone, but not everyone is accounted for. Xander asks about Alex. Sarah says she heard he’s okay. Xander is relieved and wonders if Justin or Philip have heard the news. Sarah mentions that she hasn’t heard him complain about Philip lately, so she asks if that means they have turned the corner. Xander thinks they have and that they are actually working well together. Xander reveals that Philip is now in support of his idea to go after DiMera Enterprises which shocks Sarah. Xander declares they are both gung ho now, to destroy their competition.

Philip does pushups in his room until Kate shows up at his door. Kate says she’s sorry to drop by unannounced but she needed someone to talk to. Philip tells her that he’s busy getting ready for bed because he has an early meeting tomorrow. Kate asks if he’s going to turn away his mom when she has no one else to turn to. Philip gives in and asks what the problem is. Kate informs him that her career as a soap opera mogul is a complete disaster and it’s depressing as hell.

Julie tells Chad that Marlena did not cure her depression in one magical session. Julie says she was lovely to her, but she doesn’t see how therapy is going to help her problem that Doug is gone and she’s lost without him. Chad says it makes sense that she would be having a hard time. Julie thanks him for understanding. Julie hopes she can be her old self again. Chad thinks she will find her. Chad says maybe talking to Marlena if not for a cure, will at least provide comfort. Julie agrees to book another session. Julie realizes that she can’t go on living like this and credits Chad for that realization. Julie acknowledges that she’s lost a lot of loved ones and friends in her life, but losing the love of her life is a bigger blow than she’s ever had to take. Julie feels like she’s lost a part of herself. Chad says he gets it. Julie cries that they never stop loving or missing them. Julie understands that eventually, her heart will open again and she’ll be able to appreciate the blessings she does have like Chad, his children, and all the friends that have showered her with love and support. Julie assures that she will get there and adapt. Chad encourages that they need her. Julie says she has done some soul searching and reveals that she’s had a change of heart about Cat Green.

Felicity asks Cat if Mark is a bad person. Cat assures that he’s not and that he just did a bad thing, but for a good reason, like how she lied to Chad when he didn’t deserve that. Cat calls Chad a wonderful man who is a loving father, courageous, and strong but sensitive. Cat calls him smart and funny. Felicity comments that Cat really likes Chad.

Sarah reminds Xander that she told him that she doesn’t want him to break the law. Xander insists that he and Philip will find a legal way to seize control of DiMera and promises no illegal tactics. Sarah asks if he can keep that promise. Xander admits they may have to bend the rules but they won’t break them. Sarah doesn’t like the idea of him picking a war with Kristen when she won’t go down without a fight and they know how deadly she can be. Xander promises to be careful but Sarah says that doesn’t mean anything. Sarah can’t believe Philip let Xander talk him in to this, but Xander reveals he didn’t have to as it was Philip’s idea.

Philip tells Kate that he can’t believe a crazy fan poisoned her cast and crew. Kate comments that at least no one has died yet, but the police are still checking with people who haven’t answered their phone. Philip asks about Stephanie. Kate says she’s fine and informs him that she quit the show which surprises Philip. Kate says it’s just been one thing after another and now they lost their publicist when they need her the most. Philip remarks that at least she wasn’t poisoned. Kate says she’s starting to wonder if this soap opera venture is worth all the trouble. Philip asks if she’s saying she’s ready to throw in the towel. Kate says she isn’t sure and talks about how she thought running a soap opera would be fun and it brought joy for awhile, but now there’s no joy, it’s dead…

Joy remains unconscious as her phone rings nearby with Alex’s call.

Alex tells Stephanie that Joy isn’t picking up. Stephanie says she was so worried about Alex that it never occurred to her that Joy could be in trouble as well. Alex says he has to get over there. Stephanie feels he’s still too weak. Alex says he’ll be fine and that he has to get over there because if Joy didn’t get the antidote, her life could be in danger. Stephanie decides she will drive him and they exit together.

Felicity asks Cat if she like likes Chad, but Cat claims it’s nothing like that. Cat then admits that she does. Felicity asks if Chad knows that. Cat responds that he does know that she has feelings for him, but it’s not like he would ever like her back. Felicity asks why not. Cat says it’s because of what she did to him and it destroyed any chance they had to be together.

Chad questions Julie having a change of heart about Cat. Julie explains that she realizes now that she was strong-armed by Clyde in to doing what she did. Julie notes that it doesn’t mean she forgives her for all of her lies but she doesn’t have to be so vocal about it. Julie asks if Chad and Cat are friends. Chad says he wouldn’t go that far. Chad says they are in a better place and maybe they could be friends one day.

Philip tells Kate that he’s sorry that things are such a mess and asks if he can do anything to help. Kate says he did enough by listening and that she and Abe will figure it out. Kate asks how Philip is doing at work. Philip informs her that he and Xander are actually getting along. Kate is surprised and guesses that Sarah and Stephanie are keeping their mouths shut. Philip confirms that Xander still believes the letter from Victor is legit which is good because that means he’s putting up with him. Philip then reveals that he and Xander are actually teaming up for a big power play as he declares they are going to take over DiMera Enterprises.

Sarah questions Xander saying that it was Philip’s idea to go after DiMera. Xander explains that it as his idea originally when Philip shot it down, but now Philip had a change of heart and must have realized how brilliant it was. Sarah says it doesn’t make sense. Xander questions why not. Sarah flashes back to arguing with Philip and then tells Xander that she’s just surprised since Philip opposed the idea of a hostile takeover of DiMera. Xander says Philip’s main objection was with Stephanie but it’s not really an issue now because she dumped him.

Alex and Stephanie go to Joy’s hotel room. Alex knocks on the door but there’s no answer. Alex then opens the door and they find Joy unconscious on the bed. Alex and Stephanie rush in to check on her. Alex notes that Joy has a pulse but it’s weak, so they have to get her to the hospital. Alex and Stephanie then help Joy out of the room.

Cat tells Felicity that she would like to think maybe Chad could forgive her one day, but she doesn’t see that happening. Felicity asks why not, pointing out that she did. Cat says she’s happy that she did and she’s grateful for this. Cat adds that she just doesn’t think Chad has those kind of feelings for her. Felicity compares it to her relationship with her boyfriend Todd and says he didn’t like her at first but now they are together. Cat thinks it will take more for her and Chad to turn things around.

Julie promises Chad that she won’t be so critical of Cat, but sometimes her straight shooter instincts slip out. Chad appreciates her effort. Julie says it’s the least she can do if Cat becomes Marlena’s assistant. Chad thinks Cat deserves a second chance. Julie cries that Doug would approve since he was a champion of second chances. Chad apologizes and says he has to get back to the Spectator on a big story. Chad asks if Julie will be okay. Julie says she’ll be fine and she might even try to go upstairs to sleep in her great, big, empty bed again. Chad wishes her luck. Julie notes that if she doesn’t make it, the sofa is comfortable but she promises to try. Chad tells Julie that he loves her as he then exits.

Alex gets Joy set up in a hospital bed with Sarah. Alex asks if she’s going to be okay since she was left unattended way longer than he was. Sarah says once the antidote is in her system, she should start recovering. Alex remarks that he never should’ve left her alone. Sarah points out that then he would be in bad shape too. Alex wishes it occurred to him that Joy could be in trouble too. Sarah assures that Joy is being taken care of now and asks how Alex is feeling. Alex says he’s fine thanks to the antidote and asks how they came up with it so quick. Sarah says they actually had it in the lab and so far, everyone has made a full recovery. Joy then wakes up and calls out to Alex, who tells her that he’s right there. Joy asks why she’s in the hospital and what happened to her.

At the hospital, Stephanie comments to Xander on feeling bad for Joy. Xander remarks that Joy is lucky they were both there for her. Stephanie wishes they got there sooner. Xander asks Stephanie if she and Alex are back together. Stephanie asks why he asks. Xander explains that Philip mentioned they broke up but he was vague on the details, so he thought maybe Stephanie chose Alex over Philip. Stephanie then thinks back to breaking up with Philip because of his lies about Victor’s letter. Stephanie then informs Xander that Alex is not the reason that she stopped seeing Philip. Sarah comes over, so Stephanie asks how Joy is. Sarah says it looks like she will make a full recovery and allows Stephanie to go see her. Xander tells Sarah that he’s glad Joy will be okay. Sarah admits she wasn’t sure at first because she was suffering so much longer. Xander says he can see what she means by it being a crazy night. Xander guesses she’ll still be too busy for dinner. Sarah confirms that she has more to do before finishing up and she doesn’t want Xander to have to wait any more. Xander decides he will go to the Brady Pub and pick up takeout for them and says he will see her back at the house. Xander kisses Sarah goodbye and leaves the hospital. Sarah then pulls out her phone.

Kate questions Philip saying that he and Xander are going to attempt to takeover DiMera. Philip insists they are going to succeed but guesses Kate doesn’t like the idea. Kate admires the ambition but feels they need to give it more thought as they may be ruffling the wrong feathers. Philip argues that he’s not afraid of Kristen and says it would be great to pay her back for almost killing Kate a few years ago. Kate clarifies that she’s talking about Sarah, reminding him that Sarah agreed to keep his secret because he would keep Xander in line. Philip says he hears what she’s saying, but if it was a problem, he feels he would’ve heard from Sarah by now. Philip then gets a text message from Sarah, saying she wants to meet. Sarah comes to his room. Philip answers and guesses she’s not happy about he and Xander going after DiMera. Sarah angrily reminds him of their agreement that he would keep Xander in check and now they are going after the DiMeras of all people. Philip argues that she wanted him to work with Xander and insists they won’t do anything illegal. Sarah complains that it’s an aggressive move and it will be difficult not to get their hands dirty. Philip promises to make sure that Xander doesn’t break the law. Sarah says those words ring hollow. Sarah adds that since Philip is turning out to not be a very good influence on Xander, maybe they should just tell him the truth that Philip has no claim on Titan.

Xander picks up his takeout from the Pub and then runs into Kate as he exits. Kate says she and Philip were just talking about him as he was filling her in on the plot to take over DiMera. Xander tells her to keep her voice down and remarks that he should’ve known Philip would blab to his mom. Xander questions Kate supporting their decision. Kate admits she has reservations. Xander assures they can handle Kristen, but he wishes they struck when she was more vulnerable while her daughter was missing. Xander asks if Kate has lost her competitive edge. Kate talks about running Body and Soul being much more challenging and serious than she could’ve imagined, especially with all the drama behind the scenes.

Joy tells Alex and Stephanie that she can’t believe Whitley did this. Joy credits Alex for saving her life and says she’s so grateful for him coming back when he did. Joy adds that she’s grateful for Stephanie saving Alex’s life and then asks if they just happened to run in to each other in the hallway which Alex claims is what happened. Joy calls that really lucky and is thankful she didn’t lose him.

Cat and Felicity remain together in the town square until Chad approaches. Cat introduces Chad to Felicity. Cat informs Chad that she got her new job as Marlena’s assistant. Chad says that’s great and that he’s happy for her. Felicity invites Chad to join them.

Julie gets up and slowly begins to go upstairs, telling herself that she can do this.

Chad says he has to get to the office to do some work. Cat tells him to have a good night as Chad then walks on. Felicity remarks that it was worth a try.

Philip asks Sarah to be reasonable, arguing that he’s out on his ass if she tells Xander the truth and then there won’t be anyone to keep him in check. Sarah questions who is keeping Xander in check now. Philip argues that they haven’t done anything wrong and he will do his best to make sure it stays that way, but he can’t have Sarah threatening him over every decision they make. Sarah warns Philip that he has to play by her rules. Philip asks if she’s saying they have to drop their takeover plans. Sarah allows them to proceed for now, but if she gets any hint that things aren’t on the up and up, she won’t hesitate to pull the plug. Philip thinks she’s overreacting but Sarah declares that she’s calling the shots now and she can blow him out of the water any time she wants. Sarah then exits his room.

Xander tells Kate that Sarah just told him about how Body and Soul’s cast and crew were poisoned by an obsessed fan. Kate is thankful no one died. Xander comments on things being quite dire for Joy. Kate is surprised to learn that Joy was a victim. Xander says he was at the hospital when they brought her in and Sarah said she would be okay, but she was lucky that Alex and Stephanie found her when they did.

At the hospital, Stephanie tells Alex that it’s a relief that Joy is going to be okay and she’s glad he didn’t say anything about them since it obviously wasn’t the right time. Alex agrees but says when Joy is better, he’ll break the news to her. Stephanie says only if he’s sure. Alex asks if he hasn’t made himself clear enough. Stephanie says he has, but she needs constant reassurance. Stephanie hates being needy and insecure. Alex assures that he’s crazy about her no matter what, adding that he’s insecure and needy too. Alex says he needs her to tell him that she feels like he does in this moment. Stephanie asks how he feels in this moment. Alex responds that he feels like she’s the only one for him and the only one he wants to be with. Stephanie assures that she feels exactly the same way. Alex and Stephanie then kiss as Joy comes around the corner and sees them, leaving her shocked.

Daytime Soap Opera Short Recaps

Days of Our Lives logo

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

At Aremid, Ava screamed out for help which made the woman in white show up. She told Ava that no one is looking for her because of the message she came up with. Ava was upset with herself for telling the lady in white about her son. She asked her about going to China, but the woman in white thought she would call Brady. Ava said she would go see her son and move on with her life. She would let Brady and Kristen be together. The lady in white didn’t trust her and put the gag back on her mouth. Brady and Kristen talked about Rachel and her therapy session. When Kristen noticed that something was wrong with Brady, he said he missed Ava. Kristen insulted Ava for leaving Brady during this time but appreciated her leaving so he could reconnect with Rachel. Brady said he didn’t understand why Ava would leave without saying something to him. Kristen said her feelings must not have been that deep. Brady said he has reached out to Ava, but she hasn’t responded. He decided to text Ava. Kristen left the room and found Ava’s phone in Rachel’s backpack. While she was looking at the phone, she noticed the security code was disabled and looked at the texts. Kristen wondered where Ava was. When she looked through the backpack, she realized that Ava might be at the Blake house. She asked Brady to take Rachel to her therapy session because she wasn’t feeling well. When Brady went upstairs, Kristen left.

At Rafe’s house, Jade wondered why Rafe wasn’t returning her calls. Steve showed up to talk about the charges against her. She said she couldn’t believe what was happening. Steve let her know that he didn’t believe the charges. Jada told him that she left messages for Rafe, but he hasn’t answered them. Steve said people would support her and make sure her name is cleared. He said they should wonder about EJ hiring Rafe to investigate her. Jada told him that Rafe claimed he worked for EJ to make sure the investigation was on the up and up. Steve said he believed EJ fixed the evidence. She asked how they would prove her innocence. Steve said he had to check on Kayla. He told her about Whitley and the poisoned scripts. Jada said she would find out what’s going on. EJ called Arnold. Arnold told him that Jada called him, but he didn’t answer. EJ said he did a good job at the wedding, but it was time to take over as commissioner. When Arnold got off the phone, he listened to Jada’s messages. Paulina showed up. She told him the source of the charges against Jada came from the Salem PD and wanted to know who it was. Arnold said he promised not to say anything. He said the information was convincing. Paulina was surprised he believed it. He said he wasn’t surprised. She said she had to appoint a new commissioner. He offered to do the job. Belle and EJ talked about Jada. She knew that Jada’s situation was EJ’s fault. Belle thought it was strange that EJ had Rafe do the investigation instead of one of his people. EJ said he used Rafe so the investigation wouldn’t be questioned. Belle didn’t approve of his actions. EJ told Belle that Jada got him fired which allowed Belle to take his job. While they were talking, they made love. After they finished, Belle went downstairs and saw Jada. Jada said she was there to see EJ. EJ went in the tunnel to give Rafe his breakfast. Rafe thought Arnold and Jada were married. EJ said they didn’t get married. He told Rafe the plan was to expose Jada as a corrupt cop. Kristen went to the Blake house and found Ava tied up. They talked about what happened. Kristen said she couldn’t believe Rachel could do this by herself to which Ava said she had help. EJ told Rafe that Arnold would be the new commissioner. Arnold tried to convince Paulina that he would do a good job as commissioner. A reluctant Paulina agreed to give him the job. Ava told Kristen that someone was in the house. She said it was the woman in white. When Kristen heard a voice, she thought it was her mother.
