THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[tense music]

What do you mean, “What happened last night?” Don’t you remember?

I remember being with you at Small Bar. I remember having drinks. And then the next thing I remember is waking up in my car behind the wheel. Do you know how I got home?

Oh, my God.

Well, Victoria, we’ve changed your nappy. We’ve had a lovely, healthy snack and been for a long walk in the woods. You must be so exhausted.

[baby fussing] Oh, darling. Yes, I know. You miss your mommy.

[sighs] I’m sorry, sweetheart. I’m so, so sorry for what I did to your mother.

Maggie.

Mm.

You’re still here.

Yeah. So are you.

No, I went home and got some sleep. Have you been here the whole time since Sarah was brought in?

Yeah. I’m–yeah. I couldn’t leave her, Kayla.

I know, but listen, Sarah needs all the love and care that she can get. And she needs you to take care of yourself.

I will. But for right now, Kayla, she’s putting on a pretty brave front. But I know she’s terrified.

[sighs] Dr. Greene came by earlier, and he tested her reflexes. She doesn’t have any feeling at all below the waist.

I know. We have her on a high dose of steroids to try to reduce the inflammation. I’m hoping to see some results.

[sighs] Well, what about that, uh– the repeat MRI that she had? Did it show any injury other than the swelling?

I’m gonna go right now to radiology and see what’s up, okay? Listen, I want you to know that we are doing everything we can for her. Sarah’s a fighter, and we are gonna fight hard for her. Okay?

[soft dramatic music]

I thought the neurologist would have been back by now. I’m gonna talk to Kayla and see what’s keeping him.

No, no, no, no, no. Don’t. He will round again this evening when he’s finished in surgery. That’s just how things are. We have to wait.

But your results could just be sitting there.

Mm-hmm. But no news is good news around here, my love, believe me.

[sighs] I believe you. I’m just having a hard time sitting still.

Mm-hmm. I can tell.

You comfortable?

I mean, yeah. Yeah. I–I feel fine. I can’t really feel anything. Kind of wish I could.

Right. Is there anything I can get for you or–or do for you?

Yes. Yes, you can do something for me.

Name it. Anything.

I–I, um– I want you to go home, please.

Why are you being so damn petty?

And why are you being such a dumbass?

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wh-what’s going on over here?

[sighs]

Nothing.

Well, it didn’t really sound like nothing. We could hear you guys going at it across the square. And the tension between you guys is off the charts.

That’s exactly what I thought.

Look, Chanel, I don’t know what’s going on here, but if he’s bothering you, just let me know.

Johnny, relax, okay? There is no need to resurrect the old DiMera-Kiriakis feud over just a little disagreement.

It didn’t sound very little to me.

We were just rehashing something that I thought was ancient history.

And now we are done rehashing. Hello, handsome husband of mine.

[laughs dryly] See you around–hopefully not.

So what was that all about?

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Johnny, it was nothing, really.

Uh, excuse me. Uh, I just realized there’s something I have to take care of. But I’ll see you back at the office, Johnny, after you, uh– you run our idea past Chanel.

Yeah, okay.

All right.

Thanks, Abe.

[soft music]

What’s he talking about? What idea?

Uh, well, before we get into that, I think we should probably talk about whatever just happened.

Uh, you know, c-can we just leave it, okay? There is no need to rehash the rehashing.

Yeah, okay, but if Alex is harassing you–

No, no, he’s not harassing me, okay? We were just– it was about Allie.

Hm. I thought it might be.

Okay, b-but before you get all up in your head about it, just know that I am not upset at all about the way things turned out. I am with the person that I am supposed to be with, and I know that. Alex, he just needs to get it through that thick skull of his that after how he betrayed me, there is no way we could ever be friends.

Yeah, well, I think he got that message loud and clear.

Yeah, well, I hope so.

[sighs] Anyway, um, sorry, more importantly, what was it that you wanted to talk to me about?

Uh, right, uh, well, Abe and I were discussing casting a new role for “Body and Soul.” It’s a new character by the name of Faith. She is the ingenue, but she’s also a little bit of a spitfire.

Cool. Okay. So what does that have to do with me?

Well, I thought that you might be perfect for that part.

Hey, hey, Alex. Alex, hold up. Hold on just a second.

Look, Abe, if this is about what Chanel was trying to say, I have no idea what–

No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Not at all. Not at all.

Okay.

[laughs] What is this about?

[laughs] Well, uh, this may sound like it’s coming out of left field, but have you ever thought about being an actor?

[intriguing music]

[laughs]

You want me to leave?

No, not–not because I don’t want you here. I was just hoping that you would go home and check on Victoria. And not that I don’t trust your mother, it’s just, Victoria doesn’t know her, and I don’t want her to be scared, because you know how clingy she’s been lately.

Fine. Of course I’ll go if it’ll put your mind at ease.

Yeah.

I just hate to leave you. I know your mother’s here, but–

Baby, I’m gonna be fine, okay? So I want you to go and check on our baby. I’ll be here waiting. Where am I gonna go?

[chuckles]

What happened with your mummy, it was an accident. But your father is determined to find out who caused it. God knows he’ll never forgive me if he does.

[dramatic music] So…let’s get you into the driver’s seat.

God, I pray no one ever finds out it was Brady’s car that hit Sarah. But if they do, at least they won’t know I was driving it.

[phone ringing]

Kristen, thanks for getting back to me. Wh-what do you mean it’s not gonna work out? You heard Rachel say that she wanted to spend some time with me today. No, hold on–why would you deprive her of that? Yes, I heard about Sarah’s accident. Wha-what does that have to– Kristen, I’m–I’m aware of the color of my car, okay? There–there are a lot of gray cars in Salem. What is your p– Excuse me. Lis-listen to me. I told you, I was working all night. Of cour–of course not. Stop–Kristen. Kristen, l-listen, keep your crazy theories to yourself, okay?

[phone thuds]

[knock on door]

Jada, are you busy?

I am, but I can multitask. I’m just going through the last of the security footage from the stores surrounding the town square. I’m trying to find the video of the car that ran down Sarah Horton.

Shouldn’t that be someone else’s job?

Well, you’d think, but since Shawn Brady and Harris Michaels both resigned, we are extremely understaffed here. And now with Rafe in the hospital…

Well, that’s what I came by to tell you. I’m working on getting you some help.

[sighs] That’d be great. Thanks.

Won’t be long, I promise. And since I’m here, any updates on the case?

Actually, yes, there are.

Um, no, I’ve never thought about being an actor.

[laughs] I mean, even as a kid, I grew up playing sports, you know, little league and soccer. I’ve never even done, like, a school play before. Why do you ask?

Well, we’re casting a new role in the soap opera that Kate and I are producing, and I think you are exactly the type.

[laughs] Well, thank you. I know I may be a handsome devil, but as I told you, I’m no actor.

[chuckles] Well, neither are some of the people we’ve already hired. But, uh, you know, if you’re not interested or you don’t have the time…

Well, I’m not sure I am interested, but, uh, I definitely have the time. Just had my marriage annulled, no longer CEO of Titan. So the only thing left on my plate, Abe, is to figure out how to fill my empty plate.

That sounds pretty perfect to me. Uh, but there is something you should know.

What’s that?

Well, if you’re both cast, you would be playing opposite Chanel.

[intriguing music]

[laughs] – Okay, is this a joke? You want me to be in “Body and Soul”?

Yeah, of course. Why not? I mean, look at you. You’re–you’re beautiful. You’re talented. And were you not just saying that you’re looking for a new creative outlet now that the bakery is practically running itself?

Yeah, I-I was.

Mm-hmm. And you said that you’d been looking forward to spending more time together. Well, this checks off both of those boxes. So what do you say? Will you audition?

[monitors beeping]

Hey, Mom.

Oh, sweetheart, I’m sorry, I– I didn’t mean to wake you.

Mm. You didn’t. I was just dozing. It’s impossible to get any real sleep in here, you know?

Mm. Xander went home to check on Victoria.

Mm-hmm.

You know, I-I– I could have gone in his place.

I–I didn’t want you to go.

[chuckles] I just–I thought it would be good for him to get out of here for a little bit. I don’t want him to get in the habit of– of being here /, you know? Because we all have to– we have to figure out the logistics of, you know, whatever our– our new life looks like, make sure that everybody gets done everything that’s supposed to be done while I recover.

Yeah. Well, it, um– it’ll take a village. But you have a very big village of people who love you.

[soft dramatic music]

[choking up] I’m very grateful for you, Mama.

And I, um– and I know that, um, I was– I was nervous about her coming to town, but, honestly, having Fiona here is kind of a blessing right now, isn’t it?

Well, maybe another walk will help you settle, huh? When your father was a little one, I used to drive him around in the car– for hours sometimes. It was the only thing that would calm him down. But I don’t suppose that would be a very good idea right now, do you?

[baby fussing] Ah, Victoria. You’re looking at me so intently, and yet I know you don’t understand anything I’m saying to you, which is why I can open up to you, because I know you’ll keep my secret.

What secret’s that, Mum?

And that was the last footage that we were able to obtain. None of the cameras captured Sarah getting hit by that car. And we don’t have one single eyewitness. And Sarah still has no memory of the accident. So as of now, we have no other avenues to pursue.

Not much of an update.

Yeah, unfortunately not. And unless the driver takes the car in for repairs, or we get struck by lightning and the perpetrator finds a conscience and walks through those doors with their hands up, I am not very optimistic that we’re gonna find whoever did this.

The paint, it’s scraped off.

[tires screech] Oh, God, no. No.

I don’t think that it’s a good idea for me to audition.

What? Why?

Well, I’m not a real actor, for one thing. And what if I don’t get the part? That will be awkward for both of us. Or even worse, what if I do get the part and then I make a fool of myself in front of thousands?

Mm, more like a million.

A million people watch your soap opera?

About that, yeah.

Every day?

Every day. And, look, Chanel, you are not going to make a fool of yourself, okay? You did amazing when you auditioned for Celeste. And you were so excited to be in a movie. What changed?

Well, what changed is that I am your wife now.

Yeah.

And when I said that I wanted to spend more time together, I meant, like, picnics in the park or walks around the lake. Johnny, I have worked with Allie, and I worked with Talia, and, believe me, those weren’t no picnics.

I mean… yeah, no, I’m definitely not Allie or Talia.

[mockingly] Oh, yeah. Why didn’t I think of that?

Okay, look, since you are being so stubborn, I am going to have to switch up my tactics and try to convince you in another way.

What other way?

That way. Now, how would you like to be able to do that all day long every single day any time we want? Yes? No?

[groans] All right, fine. I’ll audition.

Okay, fantastic! You won’t regret it, I promise.

I’d be working alongside Chanel? Abe, she can’t stand me.

Exactly, exactly! You know, when I saw the sparks flying between the two of you, I just knew you’d be perfect for the part.

So you just got this idea right now. Do she and Johnny even know that you’re offering me this?

No, no, not yet.

Oh, God. I highly doubt either one of them are gonna be on board with Chanel working alongside me.

[grumbles indistinctly] You let me worry about that, all right? You just show up for the audition.

Ah…

And we will take care of everything else. What do you got to lose?

I mean, when you put it like that… All right, fine. I’ll audition. Why not?

[monitors beeping]

Sarah, darling, I am so proud of your courage. All the nurses I’ve talked to, they so admire you as a doctor. They’ve been telling me what a terrific patient you are and how they admire your attitude.

[soft dramatic music]

[sniffles] You know, I’ve seen a lot of, um, patients come in here with injuries like mine, including you, and I just– I know that the only way you get better is through hard work, so…

Right. And you’re gonna do that with strength and commitment.

Yeah, for sure. You see, my plan is to stand on my own two feet and walk out of here in a week– or a month or a year or however long it takes.

And if that’s not the plan for me, then, um– Then I, um– then I plan on living a full and complete life.

Of course you will.

Mm-hmm.

Yes.

I’m a very lucky woman to have– have such a supportive mom. And I have a husband that I love with all of my heart and my daughter, who’s a miracle. So I refuse to let some hit-and-run driver rob me of a wonderful future with my family. – I just feel so bad for Sarah and her family, especially since she just got married, and she has a little girl who needs her. And, my God, to be run over by some SOB who just leaves her lying there on the side of the road.

[phone rings]

Oh, excuse me.

Oh, of course. Of course.

Yeah, Gutierrez, what you got? Oh, you did? Well, that’s great. Send it to me now. Okay, thanks.

Anything?

Uh, yeah. Saxton’s was able to retrieve some deleted footage from around the time of the accident.

Ah, yes!

[sighs] Now maybe this could be the Hail Mary that we need to find that SOB.

Oh, yes, the secret. Well, I was just telling our little darling about a plan I had for Sarah. I was thinking of maybe taking a picture of Victoria and putting it in a frame or maybe a locket.

Oh, Mum, that’s really thoughtful. Sarah would love that, I’m sure, especially coming from you.

Aw.

And how is my bonnie wee lass?

[baby gurgles] She been behaving for you?

Oh, she’s been perfect. How’s Sarah doing?

Actually, um, after you left this morning to take over babysitting duties, we had a little bit of bad news, unfortunately.

Oh, no, what happened?

Sarah has no feeling in– in her legs– from the waist down, actually.

[exhales deeply] No.

The doctors are optimistic. They say, um, it’s probably just caused by swelling. So we’re hopeful that paralysis will abate when the swelling goes down.

Yes, of course. It has to.

It’s just, uh, we have no way of knowing how long Sarah’s gonna be hospitalized for. And she’s already missing Victoria terribly, so…

Yeah, well, I’m sure Victoria is missing her too, even though she can’t express it. Oh, and you should know, she hasn’t had her nap this afternoon. She’s been resisting it like mad. Actually, I was just about to take her out for another walk, see if I could help her settle.

Don’t worry about that. I’m gonna take her to the hospital to see Sarah. I think it’ll do the world of good to see her little girl.

Well, Father knows best. Please do give my love to Sarah, hm?

Will do. See you later, Mum…

Okay.

Thank you for everything. I’m so grateful you’re here.

That means so much to me. I’ll see you later.

All right, come on, you. Let’s go see Mummy. Ooh, sorry.

[chuckles]

[tense music] Bye.

Oh.

[exhales deeply]

[phone rings] Hello?

It’s, uh–it’s me. I need to see you right now.

You know, I always wanted to be a doctor.

Yeah, I know.

[sniffles] Just…helping people in need. I always felt so blessed to do that, you know? And not just–not just curing them physically, but being there for them emotionally, you know? Not always totally successful, but– but still. It’s like a double-edged sword now, you know? Because now that I’m the patient, I just– I know everything that I’m supposed to do, and I feel like sometimes I maybe know too much.

No.

[soft dramatic music] Sarah–

No, Mom, please don’t. Please don’t.

I don’t–I don’t– I don’t want a pep talk, okay? I don’t want it. Don’t say anything. Just be here with me, okay? That’s all I want, is just be here with me.

I will always be here.

That’s the worst part is that, like, I– is being away from Victoria because they don’t allow babies in here.

[sobbing]

Don’t allow what?

Oh!

Oh, my God. Xander, how– how did you–how did you–

You know me, I– I just pulled some strings and greased some wheels– my specialty.

Thank you so much.

Hey, do you want to go to your mother now? Come on, darling.

What’s so urgent you couldn’t discuss this on the phone?

I remembered something about last night.

Oh? What?

Tires. Tires screeching. I heard them.

Is that all?

That’s all– that’s all I remember. But, Fiona, I– I now know that Sarah was hit by a driver in a gray car– a gray car. I’m afraid it could have been me.

[dramatic music]

[gasps] Oh, my God, there it is.

Oh, what? What? What?

It’s the car that hit Sarah. Here, come look. Here. That’s the moment of impact.

[gasps] Oh.

[gasps]

My!

Yeah, that’s a gray car, all right. But the lighting is bad, so I can’t really make out the make and model. You know, forensics should be able to give us more information on this. Let me just do this frame by frame.

[gasps] Whoa.

What?

I think we just broke this case wide open.

Okay, let me just, uh… okay, there, you should…

[phone beeps] Have the scene.

Okay, got it. Uh, so when is the audition? And–and how long do I have to, uh– what, find my character?

Uh, well, you have, um, as long as it takes us to find a leading man to read with you.

I’ll email you the audition scenes as soon as I get back to the office.

All right. I’ll keep an eye on my inbox. Uh, Abe, what happens if Chanel doesn’t get the part?

Well, then you’ll just have to make sparks fly with someone else.

[intriguing music]

Hm.

Brady, please calm down. Just because you drive a gray car–

No, it’s–it’s not just the color of the car, Fiona. It’s the fact that I was drunk and I don’t know how the hell I got home. I never thought I’d be stupid enough to drink and drive, and yet, clearly, I was.

[tense music] The ca–the– the car was parked face-in, so I never saw the front of it until now. There was– there’s damage on the fender.

Major damage?

It’s a–it’s a scratch.

Which you only just noticed this morning? Brady, who’s to know how long it’s been there? It might just be a coincidence. And you don’t know what caused it. Anything could have caused it, and there’s no way to know for sure. And besides, Sarah didn’t even see the driver, and apparently, she can’t remember anything either.

You have no idea how much good it did for me to see her.

Well, good news is, Kayla says I can bring her every day as long as you’re here– just can’t let on to the other patients that we get special privileges.

[laughter]

Stealth Xander.

[chuckles]

You’re looking a little sleepy, darling.

Yeah, I am a little sleepy.

Well, why don’t I bring Victoria home, and she’ll come back to see you tomorrow?

Yeah. But then after you bring her home, you’re gonna go and rest, okay? You promise?

I promise.

Okay.

I love you, sweetheart.

I love you too, Mama.

Thank you, Xander, for bringing our little sweetheart to her mommy and for pulling strings.

Like I said, it’s my specialty.

[chuckles] Okay. Okay. I’ll see you both.

Okay.

Come on, sweetheart. All right.

I love you. I love you, Victoria. I love you, Mom. I love you.

Okay. Hey. Just close your eyes, darling, get some– get some rest.

That’ll be loads of fun for you, just sitting here watching me sleep.

Don’t worry about me. I’d be totally fine with that. I could sit here and watch you sleep all day and night.

I love you.

I love you.

[grunts]

Ah, is she asleep? I can come back.

No. No, please come in.

[door closes] Did my test results come in?

Um, yeah. Yeah, they did.

This is a nightmare. This–this– no, this is Sarah’s nightmare, but I could have caused the whole thing.

Brady, everything might turn out just fine. Sarah’s surgery was a success, and the doctors are very hopeful.

Hopeful?

[splutters] Whoa, hopeful? What do you mean by “hopeful”? Answer me. What do you mean by “hopeful”? Fiona!

Sarah’s been having some trouble with her legs. It’s just some numbness and motor difficulties.

Are you– are you saying she’s paralyzed?

No. They believe it’s only temporary.

Oh, God. I got to turn myself in.

Abe, great news, Chanel has agreed to audition.

Ah, excellent, excellent.

Yeah, so, um, where did you disappear to?

[laughs] I had a sudden stroke of inspiration, and I think I found the perfect actor to play opposite her.

[chuckles]

[intriguing music]

[flatly] “Faith, I will never forgive you for this.” Damn it, Faith! I will never forgive you for this!

“You hypocrite, claiming to be innocent in all this “as if you didn’t sleep with my stepmother and my evil twin, Arrow.” Arrow?

Arrow? “Charity isn’t the evil twin. You are.”

“We’re not twins, by the way. We’re triplets.”

[chuckles] Wow. Talk about a cliffhanger. I wonder what happens next.

Fiona, I’m back.

[intriguing music] Huh.

That’s strange. Where is she?

[baby gurgling] She’s not here.

Brady, you can’t turn yourself in. You don’t even know if you’ve done anything wrong.

Oh, God, Fiona, I drove drunk. I drove drunk. There’s obviously something wrong with that, isn’t there? Why didn’t I take a cab? You told me to take a cab. I should’ve taken… Will you, uh–will you come look at the car with me? Because I want to–I want to– I want to know what you think.

Yes, of course.

I don’t see how this helps your case. I can’t see the driver. I can’t see inside the car at all.

Neither can I, but you see right here in this corner over here?

Uh-huh.

We got a partial license plate. –.

Can you identify the car off of only a few digits?

Yeah, often, we can. And now with this new lead, we have a really good chance of finding the car.

Like I said, it’s not a big scratch, but– oh, my God.

What is it?

Where’s the car?

It’s not good news, is it?

I’m afraid not.

[soft dramatic music] Um, while your initial MRI and CT showed no fracture and no displacement, the radiologist believes that the repeat MRI shows evidence of spinal cord ischemia.

[sighs]

What does that mean?

It’s a form of a stroke, but it’s in the spinal cord and not the brain. And it’s most likely caused by the blood loss that Sarah experienced after the accident.

But now, I mean, we have a definitive diagnosis. Isn’t that good? What can we do? What’s next?

Well, in Sarah’s case, surgery isn’t indicated. And steroids are a proven beneficial treatment for this condition. And Sarah’s on those already.

Yeah. In other words, there’s nothing left to do. I’m just gonna, um– I’m gonna tell you– tell you it straight, okay? There’s been damage to the nerves, and, um, it’s probably irreversible. And there’s a possibility that I– there’s a possibility that I will eventually regain some sensation, but there’s a good chance I won’t.

[sniffling]

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

“OK, Angelina, I got to tell you something. “I am not your sister. I am your mother.” Oh, God, I smell. “Angelina, I’ve got to tell you some–”

Grandma?

Do I look like a grandma?

Well, you certainly look like mine.

Sorry, kiddo. I don’t have any kids, so I probably don’t have any grandkids either.

Ah, so then you must be Hattie Adams, right?

Who wants to know?

Johnny DiMera. I am Marlena’s grandson.

Oh, hey. Hey, nice to meet you, Johnny.

You too, likewise. Wow. I mean, I knew that you looked like my grandma, but the resemblance is uncanny.

Yeah, I know. People get us mixed up all the time.

[light music]

“A person suffering from DID may not be aware “what their alters are thinking or experiencing, thus each can operate as separate, distinct personas.”

[quirky music] Oh, my God. That describes Dr. Evans to a tee. One minute, she’s wolfing down pork rinds and calling me “hunty” and I’m telling her about the time I thought Andy Cohen was hitting on me at Whole Foods but it turns out, he was just looking for ketchup and he thought I worked there. The next minute, it’s like none of that ever happened. She’s back to her prim and proper self.

[breathes deeply] Leo… you are a Good Samaritan. You have got to do something. You have got to help this woman, but how? Think, think, think, think, think, think, think, think, think, think, think, think, think.

[gasps] I know. I’ll stage an intervention. It worked for Everett. Or did it make things worse? Either way, it’s worth a shot.

[exhales heavily] Dr. Evans, it’s Leo Stark. I need to see you, like, right away. It’s an emergency.

[exhales heavily]

[sighs] You know what I’ve been thinking?

No, what?

Annette Bening. Wouldn’t she make a great guest star? I mean, just a short, like five-episode story arc? OK, listen to this, OK? Judith Callahan, the interior fashion designer, she comes storming into town, mascara streaming down her face, demands to talk to her long-lost husband, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

[laughs] Annette Bening, huh? I’ll keep that in mind. Hey, have you had a chance to look at Leo’s sample script?

Yeah, I did. I read it last night.

What’d you think?

Well, it was certainly melodramatic, filled with hyperbolic dialogue.

That’s too bad. I thought it was pretty terrific.

Oh, no, no, no. You’re misunderstanding me. That was a compliment. I mean, I think melodrama is exactly what the show needs. You know, our audience, they want to be transported to a place where the stakes are high, the emotions grand, and there’s a chance for love around every corner.

[dramatic music]

[light piano music]

Excuse me, miss, is this seat taken?

No, you’re welcome to sit.

Mm.

[chuckles]

[sighs]

I’m actually leaving in a few.

Jeez, something I said?

[chuckles] I have a meeting with a potential new client. I’m just working on the finishing touches on the proposal.

Ah, nice. That is too bad, though. I was gonna invite you to grab a drink with me and Dad and Bonnie. They’re coming to meet me here.

Oh, wish I could.

Mm.

Rain check?

[inhales sharply] OK, fine.

[chuckles]

But, you know, it was actually really weird. You know, breaking all those plates last night, it actually did the trick.

Trick?

Yeah. I mean, aside from being a great way to release pent-up anger, it’s supposed to bring about new beginnings. Now here you are, brand-new job opportunity.

Huh, I didn’t think about that.

Mm-hmm.

Well, I suppose I have you to thank for that, Alex.

Mm-hmm.

Next time we meet up, tequila shots on me.

Oh, deal.

[chuckles]

Mm. Oh! Oh, my–

Damn it!

[tense music]

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Steph, I am so, so sorry, really. I’m gonna grab more napkins.

No, no, no. It’s dry now. I’m just worried that it might have short-circuited or whatever.

[sighs]

[light piano music]

Great. It did. It’s completely frozen.

Oh, God, just let me try, please.

[sighs]

OK.

[sighs]

Oh, damn.

Yeah, damn.

You know what? Maybe I can help you with the–

What, what, write an entirely new proposal? My meeting is in a few minutes.

Steph, I am so, so sorry.

You know what? It’s fine. It’s OK. It was an accident. It–I can figure something out.

[sighs] Well, still, at least let me pay for your meal and your drink.

No, I can’t let you do that.

[sighs] Please. Hey, I insist. I insist.

It’s OK, Alex, really.

Hey, you two.

Dad, hey. Bonnie.

What’s going on here, hmm?

[sighs]

So sample script written by Leo Stark. Teaser A. should I act out this first speech?

Yeah, let’s hear it.

OK, give it a try. “You don’t think I love you? “No. “You’re the one scared of love. “What do I mean? “Do I have to spell this out to you? “Because you’re broken, that’s why. “It’s not my job, Ian, to pick up the pieces and put you back together again.” So are you hooked? Do you want to find out how Ian responds?

[chuckles] Definitely. Definitely.

I think the audience will too. You know, did you read that scene between the mother and son and the– yeah, in the visiting room in the jail?

Yeah, yeah.

That was heartbreaking.

So did you happen to see Leo’s story pitches that were attached?

I did. I mean, there’s so much intriguing material there. I really like the idea of giving Charlemagne double lives. I mean, I think that’s gonna play right into Hattie’s wheelhouse.

[dramatic music]

Well, Hattie, I’m actually glad I ran into you, because from what I understand, you and I are gonna be working together.

Oh?

Yeah, on “Body & Soul.”

Oh. Oh, what part do you play?

[gasps] Are you my love interest?

No, I’m the director.

Oh, the director. Oh, good, good. There are a few things you can help me with.

Yeah, sure. What, are you having trouble understanding your motivation?

No. No. I just think the character doesn’t, you know, sound like me.

[chuckles] Right. Well, I mean, how do you want it to sound? I mean, you got to remember, you’re not playing Hattie. You’re playing Charlemagne.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, but look, the writer just doesn’t know Charlemagne, I mean, the way that I know her.

Right, well, with all due respect, Hattie, it is my personal philosophy that actors and directors are not in the business of revising scripts. Only a writer should do that.

Right.

[gasps] Right you are. Yeah. This dog’s been barking up the wrong tree.

[light music]

“As those suffering from DID are dealing with a form of post-traumatic stress disorder”–that’s PTSD– “they are often hypervigilant and easily startled.”

[dramatic music] You know what this means, Leo? When confronting Dr. Evans about her split personality, you have got to be cool, calm, collected. How the hell am I gonna find the inner resources to pull that off? I know. Some old-school Katy Perry will help. Hmm, not the one about kissing girls. Ooh, maybe the one about the fireworks.

[knock at door] Oh, I don’t need the room cleaned. Thank you.

[knock at door] Ay, what is it now?

[sighs]

Oh, hello. I wasn’t expecting you.

I know. I should have called. But the thing is, I really need your help.

Damn right, you do.

[quirky music]

[sighs]

[sniffs] Ooh, ooh, ooh. This place smells like a farmhouse.

Oh, it’s a scented candle that may have expired a couple years ago.

Yeah, well, that might explain it. Anyway, did you get the job?

At that new Pilates studio? No, they told me that I was too much of an–and I quote– oversharer to work at the front desk.

Oh, no, no, not that job, the writing job on “Body & Soul.”

Oh, oh, I’m still waiting to hear back, but fingers crossed, although I am tempering my expectations, which is why I’m applying for all these other jobs.

Well, it’s good to have a backup. Speaking of backups, I have one for you. You can get busy rewriting this script for me.

OK, look, while I love, love, love this whole “go fetch me my coffee” diva thing you’ve got going on, bad dialogue is the least of your problems.

[quirky music]

What does that mean?

It means I know what’s wrong with you.

You know what’s wrong with me? Like–oh, like I’m a people-pleaser. Or like I’m hungry for the love of a good man.

No, look, I hear you on all that, believe me. But your problem is that you have DID.

Ooh, I do?

Mm-hmm.

Oh, no. What is that, some kind of a venereal disease?

No, no, no. DID stands for dissociative identity disorder. You’re like Sybil.

[gasps] Cybill Shepherd? Oh, thank for the compliment. She’s so beautiful. I loved her on “Moonlighting.”

No, not Cybill Shepherd, although I do adore her too. I’m talking about the s made-for-TV movie starring the always wonderful Sally Field.

Sally Field. I love her so much. She’s so good.

I do too. But no. OK, Leo, for the love of a young and sweaty Marlon Brando, focus!

[breathes sharply]

OK, focus. Foc–focus on what?

On–on–

Oh, come on. You’re so close. You can just spit it out.

I’m trying to help you, Dr. Evans!

[dramatic music]

I am not Dr. Evans.

[sighs] – You’re saying that this Hattie woman looks just like your grandmother.

Like, spitting image, like, eerily looks like her, yes.

OK, what about her personality? Do they have the same laugh?

No, no, really different, actually, like, complete opposites, except for looks.

Opposites? In what way?

Hattie’s a little… out there.

[chuckles] OK, so, like, good out there or…

Let’s just say working with her will be a wild ride, I’m sure.

[laughs] Well, you can handle it.

Yeah, let’s hope so.

You know what? I have to admit that I am a little bit envious. I mean, I wouldn’t mind having a job that was a little bit more unpredictable and exciting.

Are you saying you’re bored with Sweet Bits?

No, no, not at all. It’s just that, you know, I hired all those new staff and, you know, including Felicity Greene, who bikes over after school. And, well, the bakery’s pretty much running itself now.

So what you’re saying is, you just have all this free time on your hands now.

Yeah. Yeah, that is what I’m saying. And, you know, I kind of thought that I would be spending that free time with you, Gio. But now you’re gonna be so busy with “Body & Soul,” and, well–

[sighs]

You know, there was another story I really liked too.

Oh, what’s that?

The star-crossed lovers, Arrow and Faith. I mean, I really think that Leo handled their dilemma with quite a bit of nuance.

I agree. I agree. But, you know, I am worried about all the new faces.

Yeah, well, those two, though, would be connected to existing families. But also, Abe, we need young characters. We need sexy characters.

Yeah, I get that. I get that. But these two were born eight years ago.

[chuckles] I mean, and now they’re full-grown adults. That’s an extreme case of SORAS’ing.

SORAS’ing?

Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome.

[laughter]

What?

Imagine– imagine that your son Philip was born in . And in , he becomes a teenage boy.

Well, that would be kind of bizarre.

[chuckles] Yeah.

I mean, are you telling me the audience really accepts this?

Yeah. Yeah, they do, as long as you give them a good story and cast an appealing actor.

Well, we have a damn good story. Now all we have to do is find two appealing young people to make it work.

What’s going on is that I just accidentally spilled water all over Stephanie’s laptop, and now–

Now it’s not working.

And again, Stephanie, I am really sorry. I know she worked really hard on this proposal, and it’s gone.

You didn’t save it to the cloud?

Unfortunately, I did not.

[chuckles nervously] But I do have to go to my meeting now, and I will pitch my proposal without notes. But don’t feel guilty, Alex. It was an accident. And I’m sure I can get my laptop fixed.

[sighs] Steph, I’m sorry.

No, no, it’s fine. Bye, Justin, Bonnie.

Bye, Stephanie.

Sorry about your computer, sweetheart.

Thanks.

God, I feel awful, man. I know how hard she worked on that proposal, and my clumsy ass just screwed it all up.

I happen to have something that might just lift your spirits.

[sighs]

[light piano music]

So does this mean what I think it means, that my marriage to Theresa is officially annulled?

It’s like it never happened.

[exhales heavily] Thank you, God. It’s got to be some kind of a record. We were married for a whole minutes before the whole thing imploded.

Now you can put that nightmare behind you, Alex.

And then maybe get back together with Stephanie.

[clears throat]

[light piano music]

Hey.

Hi, Stephanie.

Kate, hi. I’m not late for our meeting, am I?

No, no, not at all. I just have to do an errand. But Abe is going to interview you on his own.

Oh, OK.

See you later.

Bye-bye. Well, glad to see you. Welcome.

Abe, thank you. Thank you. And, Abe, I’m sorry. I had this whole presentation ready to go. And long story short, my laptop froze. But I think I can remember most of my pitch from memory.

Well, that won’t be necessary.

What? I don’t–

This is just a formality. I know firsthand what you can do from your work with Paulina. So the job is yours if you want it.

Wow, Abe, thank you. Thank you. And I know that this won’t be a walk in the park, promoting the relaunch of “Body & Soul,” but I am more than willing to devote all of my time and energy to it.

Well, welcome to the team.

[chuckles]

[dramatic music]

[light music]

Yeah, I guess our timing’s a little off. You know, you used to be the one that was always too busy, and now it looks like we’ve switched roles.

Yeah, but, babe, I know that we are still going to find time to be together. And who knows? Maybe with you pursuing your dream, it will encourage me to pursue mine.

But I thought your dream was to open up the bakery.

No, it was, and I do love the bakery.

OK, so, what, do you want to– you want to open up some more locations?

No, no. Well, not now, at least. I don’t know, I’m thinking that maybe I want to find another creative outlet. I just don’t know what that is yet.

OK, well, what about– what about that yoga teacher training?

In Costa Rica?

Yeah, well, maybe we could find one that’s a little closer. Or that poetry class.

Mm, I don’t know.

Chanel, I have read your poetry. It’s amazing, OK? Plus, it could be a great opportunity to meet other writers, other poets. I mean, who knows? Maybe you could even publish a coffee-table book.

That we both know you would just use as a coaster?

If you were the writer of them, I don’t think so. I wouldn’t dream of it.

Uh-huh.

I got to get to work. Bye.

Thank you, Johnny, for making time and stopping by to say hi.

I will always make time for you.

I love you, Gio.

I love you too.

[sighs]

OK, OK, I know you’re not Dr. Evans, at least not at the moment. But she’s in there with a crowbar and a headlamp, just trying to fight her way out.

What are you saying? I ate her?

No, you didn’t eat her. She is you. You’re her.

I am Hattie.

Hattie is one of your alters.

Alters? What are you talking about?

Alternate personalities. Hattie is the part of you that likes to chew with her mouth open and yell at poor, overworked cashiers about expired coupons. I mean, look at your trashy wardrobe.

Hey, there’s nothing wrong with my wardrobe. And I’ll have you know that I am my own person.

See, that’s exactly what an alter would say.

Hey, what are you saying? Come on, you’re not a psychiatrist.

No, but I did read this book on alternate personalities. And I even wrote little notes in the margins, so I’m basically an expert in the subject.

I don’t think that makes you an expert, Lenny.

It’s Leo, also known as Lady Whistleblower.

Oh, now who has an alter?

OK, that’s enough. Enough. Dr. Evans, are you in there? It’s me, Leo!

Ow, my ears.

Dr. Evans, come on! Walk, no, run to the light! You have got to come back to me!

You’re too loud. You’re too loud. Stop shaking me.

Come on, Dr. Evans!

Oh, well, I cannot wait to start getting the word out that “Body & Soul” is back, baby.

And better than ever.

[chuckles]

Definitely. Mm. Oh, wait a second. Is that–

Hattie Adams.

Oh, right. OK, that makes a lot more sense. For a second there, I thought that Marlena had been bitten by the old acting bug.

Ah, no. I tried to recruit her, but she turned me down.

Oh. Well, I would imagine that she’s very busy with her practice.

Mm, mm.

Mm. But Bonnie’s on the show, yeah?

Yes, yes, she is.

And I’m guessing she might need some guidance when it comes to talking to the press.

Hattie too. They both tend to say the fir– anything, anything that comes into their mind.

[dramatic music]

Uh-oh. Did I just put my foot in it again, as usual?

No, no, you didn’t. It’s just that Stephanie and I are just friends.

Yeah, but you guys used to be an item, right?

Bonnie.

What? The way the situation looked when we walked in here? You guys were throwing off some major sparks.

That’s, yeah, probably from her laptop short-circuiting when I threw water all over it.

Oh, come on. The way you two were looking at each other, you guys had some awesome chemistry going.

Ah.

Don’t you agree, honey?

I am staying out of my son’s love life, and so should you.

All’s I’m saying is, it wouldn’t hurt to give it another shot. I mean, why not?

There are reasons.

What, because you turned her phone off that one time and she missed her mom’s death? Well, news flash. Kayla’s still alive. No harm, no foul. Come on.

My God. It’s not happening, Bonnie. I’m telling you, end of story. Period. Stephanie and I, we both got out of relationships that ended really badly. So trust me when I tell you neither of us is ready for something new. – I’m really looking forward to working with you, Abe and Kate.

Oh, that’s wonderful. Thank you, and come back soon.

Mm, will do.

[laughter]

Hey, cuz.

Johnny, hi.

Hi, what’re you– what are you doing here?

Stephanie is “Body & Soul’s” new publicist.

Mm-hmm.

OK.

And Johnny is our director.

Congratulations. I know you’ve always wanted to direct. This is amazing.

Oh, thank you. Congratulations to you too.

Oh, thanks.

Oh, well, I’ll see you.

OK. I’ll see you later, Steph.

Yeah, take care of yourself, now.

You know, I– I met our star, Hattie.

And what did you think?

I think that she is– she’s interesting, mm-hmm.

[laughter]

Well, I have to tell you, to be honest, Hattie can be a handful. But she’s also very green.

Yeah, well, so was Bonnie, and look at her. She knocked her audition out of the park.

Yeah, yeah. But Hattie could benefit from your– your direction as well.

Well, I’ll see what I can do. And honestly, I’m optimistic. I mean, from what I saw of her, she certainly has a flair for the dramatic.

Man, oh, man. What was all that about? You nearly made me toss up my hot fudge sundae with extra marshmallows on the top.

I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I thought that if I shook you hard enough– Hattie, you have got to let me talk to Dr. Evans.

OK, pick up the phone and call her.

[quirky music]

Wait. If I pick up the phone and call her, do you– I skipped over chapter . It seemed important, but the text was just so dry.

[scoffs] I’m wasting my time. I’m leaving.

Wait, wait, wait. No, no, no, no, no. Listen, listen. This is just like what happened with my former boss, Everett Lynch, and I don’t want you to end up like him– you know, dead.

Hey, I don’t have any disease. And by the way, I don’t need help. You’re the one who needs some help.

OK, you know what? You have left me no choice. I’m doing a–I don’t know what you call it, a ? Hattie, I am taking you to Bayview.

Wait, what are you talking about?

This is for your own good. Come on.

No, no, let go of me. Let go of me.

Whoa, what the hell is happening here?

Kate, I’m so glad you’re here. He’s trying to have me committed.

I am trying to help you. See, Dr. Evans has a split personality. She thinks she’s somebody called Hattie.

Leo, Hattie is not Marlena’s alter. That’s her doppelganger.

All’s I’m saying is, look at the bigger picture. I mean, if there’s something between you two–

There isn’t. I should get home.

No, wait. Look, I’m sorry, OK? If I’m being a little pushy, it’s just… honey, with everything you’ve been through, I just want to see you happy.

Thank you, Bonnie. I will be fine.

[sighs]

Bye.

Bye.

See you, Dad.

Bye-bye.

[chuckles]

[phone beeps] Ooh. I buzzed.

[gasps] Oh, I got my contract from “Body & Soul.” It’s official.

[laughs]

Congratulations.

I’m so excited.

[laughs]

Abe said you were fantastic, a natural.

I did feel really good about my audition, that is, after Johnny’s direction, of course. Oh, and they want to… pay me scale.

That’s the minimum.

Oh. Oh, fine by me, as long as I get the job, you know. You know what? I am gonna eSign this right now, before they change their minds.

Bonnie, stop. Don’t do it. Big mistake.

[light piano music]

[gasps] Hey, Uncle Roman.

Hey, Niece.

Hey.

[laughs]

Hey, so in case you haven’t heard, guess who just signed on to be the publicist of– drumroll, please– your fabulous wife’s TV show?

I did not hear that, but that is great. Congratulations, Steph. Abe and Kate made a very wise decision.

Yeah, thank you.

I got to admit, though, I’ve never been much of a soap guy, but, you know, my wife, my best friend, my grandson, and now my niece involved– I guess I better start tuning in, huh?

Oh, you’re gonna get addicted like that.

That’s what Katie keeps telling me. She’s pretty excited about all this. But to be honest, I’m not sure she knows what she’s getting herself into.

Hmm. What do you mean?

Well, she did work in the corporate world for a lot of years, and that’s pretty cutthroat. But I got a feeling this showbiz is… just a whole new level of crazy.

[laughs]

[quirky music]

I don’t believe it. You look and sound exactly like Marlena.

Jeez, like I haven’t heard that a gazillion times.

I mean, you don’t have the poise or the erudition. But still, how is this possible?

Well, she did have some help from a certain Dr. Rolf.

[gasps] Quit giving away my trade secrets. Jeez!

Wow, and this whole time, I thought I was talking to Marlena. Wait a second. Why did you accept my invitation to watch “Drag Race”? Didn’t you think it was, I don’t know, a little odd sharing a blanket with a stranger while watching a bunch of lip-synching drag queens?

I thought you were just being friendly. And you know what? I also thought you seemed a little bit lonely, which the surgeon general says is a real health hazard, and also because, well, I’m pretty popular with the gays.

Well, I do get that, since you are needy as hell in a ditzy kind of way. No wonder Marlena was so bewildered when I talked about you to her, thinking I was talking about her. She must have thought I was mad as a hatter. See, that’s an old expression that comes from a time when hatmakers used to spray mercury on–

No, I know the expression.

OK, well, I’m really sorry about the misunderstanding. And I’m really sorry I tried to have you committed.

Oh, thanks. Apology accepted.

OK, good.

I’m just glad to know that you think I’m completely sane.

Relatively speaking.

I love all these storylines. I think they’re great. I particularly like this one about the young couple.

Yeah. Kate and I were just discussing that.

[clears throat] “What can be said about Arrow and Faith “that isn’t implied in every stolen glance, “every piece of hurled china across the room? “These two are like fire and ice, oil and water. “They have a way of pushing each other’s buttons, “bickering, slamming doors. “But what’s it all for? “If only they could see what is plain to everyone else, “that they are meant to be together, “that the sexual chemistry between them is off the charts. “So the question is, when will these two stop swimming upstream and surrender to destiny?”

[chuckles]

This is great. It’s exactly what we need.

Mm. Now we just have to find the right actor for the part.

Yeah. You know what? I actually think I might know someone who would be perfect for the role of Faith.

Who?

Chanel Dupree.

Chanel? As in my stepdaughter, Chanel?

Yeah. I mean, why not? When she auditioned for the role of Celeste, she killed it. I mean, you know, it was for the movie about my grandma that, of course, ended up not getting made. But still, I mean, she did an amazing job.

What about the bakery?

Well, it’s funny you mention that. I was just talking to her about the bakery, and she said that with all the new help she’s hired, she’s got all this new free time and that she’s looking for a new creative outlet.

Hmm. Yeah. You know, I can see Chanel doing that part.

Yeah, me too. Now we just need to find a leading man that she’s got chemistry with.

[light music]

Hey, stranger.

Alex. Hi, long time, no see. How are you?

Better than ever, just got my annulment papers. I am officially single.

[chuckles] Well, you must be relieved. I heard about Theresa Donovan and how she deceived you. I’m really sorry. You must–that must have been rough.

Yeah, she definitely took me for a ride, letting me think that I was the Kiriakis heir and that she was madly in love with me. But, you know, I can’t completely blame her, because I knew part of me always knew I couldn’t really trust her, and I just ignored my gut.

Mm, sounds like you listened to another part of your anatomy, as usual.

What do you mean by that?

Oh, nothing. Forget it.

No, no, please. You always speak your mind, Chanel. Go ahead. Share with the class.

[sighs]

Look, I didn’t mean to offend you. It’s just that you seem to be driven by your hormones, and that causes you to make questionable decisions.

Oh, OK, Dr. Freud. Well, do you care to elaborate, maybe with an example, like–

Like sleeping with my girlfriend?

[sighs]

What are you talking about? Why don’t you think I should sign it? Look, I know you’ve never acted before, but you obviously have talent. And you should be rewarded. This is their very first offer, so let me try and negotiate a better deal.

You’d do that for me?

Of course. You’re my wife. I’d do anything for you.

Honey, I was a little nervous about what you would think about me acting on this show. I kind of thought you would think it was silly.

Are you kidding? Sweetheart, I’m so proud of you.

Really?

Of course. I just hope that I get to be your plus-one when they call your name at the Daytime Emmys.

Oh, honey, you will always and forever be my plus-one. I love you.

Mm.

Mm.

No, no, no, no. I’m fine, Dr. Evans. There’s no emergency after all. See, there was this enormous spider in my bathroom this morning, and I panicked. You know how my anxiety can take over. Anyway, I got some peppermint oil, and he cashed in his chips. OK, great. Are we still on for “Drag Race” tomorrow? OK, it’s a date. Hoo.

An enormous spider?

There really was a spider in my bathroom this morning, although he crawled into an open bottle of mouthwash before I got the peppermint oil. Anyway, I really hate lying to my shrink, but it’s better than having her think that I’m ready to be committed, because I have two eyes and two ears, and the two of you look and sound exactly the same.

OK, OK. Before I get off this crazy train, I just wanted to tell you, Leo Stark, that you are the new head writer of “Body & Soul.”

[gasps] I’m sorry. Can you say that again?

You are the new head writer of “Body & Soul.”

Oh, my God. Wait, wait, hold on a second. This isn’t some sort of prank, is it?

No, no prank. You’ll be getting your contract later by email. Congratulations, Leo.

[gasping]

[soft music] Leo Stark, the head writer of a television show.

[laughs]

I am so, so, so, so happy for you. Ooh, I’m so happy for you. Now you can get busy fixing my script.

I wouldn’t worry, Uncle Roman. I’m sure your wife is more than capable of handling her own in television or any other field.

Good point. Fair warning, though. She can be a very tough boss.

I can handle it.

I bet you can.

[chuckles] And now on a more serious note, I just want to say this, Steph. I heard about Everett, and I’m very sorry.

Thanks.

How are you doing?

It’s been hard, obviously. And now that his case is closed, Jada is going to release his ashes to me.

He didn’t have any family?

[sighs] None that they could locate. And since he and Jada were divorced, she felt that it was best that I get his ashes. So it’s also up to me to make sure that Everett is laid to rest.

Right. And after that, I hope that both you and Jada can find some peace and that you can put this terrible tragedy behind you and move on.

[somber music]

Wow. Still holding a grudge against me for sleeping with Allie, huh?

I mean, you did hook up with her while she and I were still in a relationship.

Chanel, come on. Allie and I were wasted. The two of you were on the outs. And I don’t see why this matters anymore. You’re happily married, right?

I am. Yes.

Yeah, happily?

Yes.

Then why are you making such a big deal out of this?

Because it is a big deal. You slept with my girlfriend, Alex.

OK.

That’s not OK.

And as I just said, you two were on the outs. And the time before that, not like it happened out of the blue, the three of us had had sex, as you may recall.

OK, yes, I recall. But that was completely different.

Oh, yeah. How was that different?

Because Allie and I were trying something together to improve our relationship.

To improve–

[laughs] Give me a break.

What? It’s true. That didn’t have anything to do with you.

I beg to differ, because the two of you were all over me that night.

[laughs] Boy, please. You were like a nonentity.

A nonentity? Really? I remember playing quite a big role.

Oh, and I remember it not being very big at all.

Oh, now, we both know that ain’t true.

Oh, oh, do we?

Mm. Why are you being so petty?

And why are you being such a damn–

Whoa, whoa, whoa.

No, go ahead, finish.

No, what’s going on over here?

Noth–nothing.

Really? It didn’t seem like nothing. We could hear the two of you going at it across the square. And the tension between you two is off the charts.

[quirky music]

It’s exactly what I was thinking.

Days of Our Lives Update

Update written by Joseph

Hattie sits in the town square, reading over her script for Body and Soul. Johnny approaches and at first thinks she is Marlena before realizing it is Hattie. Johnny introduces himself as Marlena’s grandson. Johnny says he knew Hattie looked like Marlena but calls the resemblance uncanny. Hattie remarks that people get them mixed up all the time…

Leo is in his room at the Salem Inn, reading a book about Dissociative Identity Disorder and talks about how he thinks Marlena has an alter because of Hattie. Leo declares that he has to help Marlena but he doesn’t know how. Leo suggests to himself that he will stage an intervention and calls Marlena, saying he needs to see her right away as it’s an emergency.

At the Body and Soul offices, Kate tells Abe that she’s been thinking that Annette Bening would make a great guest star on the show. Abe says he’ll keep that in mind and asks if she looked at Leo’s sample script. Kate confirms she read it last night and calls it melodramatic with hyperbolic dialogue. Abe responds that he thought it was pretty terrific. Kate agrees that melodrama is exactly what the show needs.

Stephanie is using her laptop at the Bistro as Alex joins her. Stephanie mentions that she has a meeting with a potential new client, so she’s working on finishing touches. Alex says he was going to invite her for drinks with him, Justin, and Bonnie since they are meeting him here. Stephanie wishes she could but calls a rain check. Alex talks about how breaking plates last night did the trick since it’s supposed to bring about new beginnings and now Stephanie has a new job opportunity. Stephanie thanks Alex and jokes that next time they meet up, tequila shots will be on her. Alex goes to get up from the table and accidentally knocks over the glass of water onto Stephanie’s laptop. Alex apologizes as Stephanie sees the computer is completely frozen. Alex tries fixing it but has no luck as Stephanie comments on being unable to write a completely new proposal when her meeting is in a few minutes. Alex apologizes again. Stephanie decides it’s fine and calls it an accident, saying she’ll figure something out. Alex offers to pay for her meal but Stephanie says she can’t let him do that. Alex insists but Stephanie says it’s okay. Their hands touch until Justin and Bonnie arrive to greet them. Bonnie questions what’s going on here.

Kate reads Leo’s script to Abe and comments on a scene. Abe brings up Leo’s story ideas. Kate mentions liking the idea of giving Charlemagne double lives, playing in to Hattie’s wheelhouse.

Johnny informs Hattie that they are going to be working together on Body and Soul. Hattie asks what part he plays. Johnny reveals that he’s the director. Hattie says that’s good as there are a few things he can help her with. Hattie thinks the character doesn’t sound like her. Johnny reminds her that she’s playing Charlemagne, not Hattie. Hattie says the writer doesn’t know Charlemagne like she does. Johnny believes actors and directors aren’t in the business of rewriting scripts as only a writer should do that. Hattie agrees and then heads to the Salem Inn.

Leo continues reading about D.I.D. and tells himself about how to confront Marlena about her split personality. Leo looks up Katy Perry songs for motivation. Hattie then shows up at his door. Leo says he wasn’t expecting her. Hattie says she should’ve called but she really needs his help. Hattie asks if Leo got the job at Body and Soul. Leo says he’s still waiting to hear back but he’s tempering his expectations and applying for other jobs. Hattie says it’s good to have backups and asks Leo to rewrite a script for her. Leo remarks that bad dialogues are the least of her problems which she questions. Leo then tells her that he knows what’s wrong with her. Leo tells her that she has D.I.D. Hattie asks what that is. Leo explains that it’s dissociative identity disorder. They argue until Leo shouts that he’s trying to help Dr. Evans. Hattie then responds that she is not Dr. Evans.

Chanel joins Johnny in the town square. Johnny tells her about how much Hattie looks exactly like Marlena but they are complete opposites aside from looks. Johnny jokes that working with Hattie is going to be a wild ride. Chanel encourages that he can handle it and admits she’s a little envious as she sometimes wishes she had a job that was more unpredictable and exciting. Johnny asks if she’s saying she’s bored with the Bakery. Chanel says not at all and talks about how she hired a lot of staff so the Bakery is pretty much running itself now, so she has free time on her hands now. Chanel thought she would spending that free time with Johnny, but now he will be so busy with Body and Soul.

Kate tells Abe that another story she liked in Leo’s script was about star crossed lovers. Abe worries about all the new faces. Kate points out how these two characters will be connected to the other families and how they need younger characters too. Abe jokes about how these characters were born 8 years ago and are now adults, calling it an extreme case of Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome. Kate questions the audience accepting that. Abe says they do as long as there’s a good story and an appealing actor. Kate says they have a damn good story, so now they just have to find two appealing young people for the roles.

Alex explains to Bonnie and Justin that what’s happening is he spilled water on Stephanie’s laptop and now it’s not working. Alex apologizes, mentioning how important her proposal was. Justin questions if she didn’t save it to the cloud which Stephanie confirms she unfortunately did not. Stephanie says she has to get to her meeting now so she will pitch her proposal without notes. Stephanie tells Alex not to feel guilty as it was an accident and she’s sure she can get her laptop fixed. Stephanie says bye to them and exits. Alex complains that he feels awful as he knows how hard Stephanie worked and his clumsy ass just screwed it all up. Justin informs Alex that he has something that might just lift his spirits. Justin presents Alex with documents confirming his marriage to Theresa has been annulled. Alex calls it a relief, joking that it has to be a record as they were married for 30 minutes before it all blew up. Justin encourages that now he can put that nightmare behind them. Bonnie then suggests maybe Alex can get back together with Stephanie.

Stephanie goes to the Body and Soul office to meet with Kate and Abe. Kate says she has to run an errand, so Abe will interview her on his own. Kate exits. Abe tells Stephanie that he’s glad to see her. Stephanie apologizes as she had a whole presentation ready to go but her laptop froze. Stephanie thinks she can remember most of her pitch from memory. Abe responds that won’t be necessary at this is just a formality and he knows first hand what she can do from her work with Paulina, so the job is hers if she wants it. Stephanie thanks him and knows this won’t be a walk in the park but promises to be more than willing to devote all of her time and energy to it. Abe welcomes Stephanie to the team as they shake hands.

Johnny tells Chanel that their timing is a little off as she used to be the one always too busy and now they have switched roles. Chanel knows they will still find time to be together and maybe with him pursuing his dream, it will encourage her to pursue her dream. Johnny thought the Bakery was her dream. Chanel says it was and she does love it. Johnny asks if she wants to open more locations. Chanel is thinking maybe she wants to find another creative outlet, but she doesn’t know what that is yet. Johnny brings up her yoga teaching or poetry class. Johnny mentions reading her poetry and calls it amazing. Johnny points out she could also meet other poets or publish a book. Johnny says he has to get to work. Chanel thanks him for making time and stopping by to say hi. Johnny assures that he will always make time for her. They say I love you as Johnny kisses her goodbye and then walks away.

Leo talks to Hattie as if she is Marlena’s alter. Hattie questions what he’s talking about. Leo talks about Hattie being an alternate personality of Marlena and calls her wardrobe trashy. Hattie argues that she is her own person and that Leo is not a psychiatrist. Leo brings up the book he read on multiple personalities, thinking that makes him an expert on the subject. Leo corrects Hattie when she calls him Lenny and points out that he’s also Lady Whistleblower which Hattie remarks must be his alter. Leo yells at Hattie as though he is trying to get Marlena to come out.

Stephanie tells Abe that she can’t wait to start getting the word out that Body and Soul is back. Stephanie sees some of the headshots on the table and sees Hattie, thinking at first that she was Marlena. Abe mentions trying to recruit Marlena but she turned him down. Stephanie imagines she’s very busy, but points out that Bonnie is on the show. Stephanie guesses Bonnie might need some guidance when it comes to talking to the press. Abe says that Hattie will do as they both tend to say whatever comes to mind.

Bonnie asks if she put her foot in it again. Alex tells her that she didn’t and that he and Stephanie are just friends. Bonnie points out that they used to be an item and how the situation looked when they walked in. Bonnie feels they had awesome chemistry and asks Justin if he agrees. Justin thinks they should stay out of Alex’s love life. Bonnie thinks there’s nothing wrong with them trying again but Alex insists that it’s not happening. Alex states that he and Stephanie both just got out of relationships that ended really badly so neither of them are ready for something new.

Stephanie tells Abe that she’s really looking forward to working with him and Kate. Alex tells her to come back soon. Johnny arrives and greets her. Abe informs Johnny and Stephanie of their roles with the show. They congratulate each other as Stephanie then exits. Johnny tells Abe about meeting Hattie. Abe asks what he thought. Johnny thinks she’s interesting. Abe admits that Hattie can be a handful, but she’s also very green. Johnny says that Bonnie is too but she knocked her audition out of the park. Abe thinks that Hattie can use some of Johnny’s help as well. Johnny says he’s optimistic and could tell Hattie has a flare for the dramatic.

Leo continues telling Hattie that he’s trying to get through to Marlena, so Hattie tells him to call her then. Leo compares this is to Everett having D.I.D. Hattie declares that she doesn’t need help and that Leo does. Leo shouts that he’s taking her to Bayview but when he opens the door, Kate arrives and questions what is going on. Hattie pulls away and tells Kate that Leo was trying to have her committed. Leo explains to Kate that he’s trying to help Marlena as she thinks she’s someone called Hattie. Kate explains to Leo that Hattie is not Marlena’s alter, but her doppelganger.

Bonnie encourages Alex to look at the bigger picture but Alex insists there is nothing between he and Stephanie. Bonnie apologizes for being pushy and says she just wants to see him happy after all he’s been through. Alex thanks her and assures he’ll be fine as he then exits the Bistro. Bonnie gets a text that she’s officially gotten her contract for Body and Soul. Justin congratulates her and notes that Abe said she was fantastic. Bonnie credits Johnny’s help. Bonnie looks at the contract and notes being paid the minimum. Bonnie says she’s going to e-sign it right now, but Justin stops her and tells her not to do it, calling it a big mistake.

Roman takes the trash out from the Brady Pub and runs in to Stephanie. Stephanie informs him that she just signed on to be the publicist for Body and Soul. Roman congratulates her, saying Abe and Kate made a fabulous decision. Roman talks about never being a soap guy but guesses with his family involved, he should tune in. Stephanie encourages that he will get hooked. Roman says that Kate keeps saying that but admits he doesn’t know if Kate knows what she’s getting herself in to. Roman feels that showbiz is going to be a whole new level of crazy for Kate.

Leo can’t believe it as Hattie looks and sounds exactly like Marlena. Hattie remarks that she’s heard that a zillion times. Leo questions how that’s possible. Kate points out that she did have some help from Dr. Rolf. Hattie complains about her revealing her secrets. Leo talks about thinking this whole time that he was talking to Marlena. Leo questions why she accepted his invitation to watch RuPaul’s Drag Race and not finding that odd. Hattie says she thought he was just being nice and jokes that she is popular with the gays. Leo talks about realizing why Marlena was bewildered when he talked to her as if Hattie was her and how she must have thought he had gone mad. Leo tells Hattie that he’s really sorry about the misunderstanding and trying to have her committed. Hattie thanks him and accepts his apology. Hattie is glad to know that he thinks she’s completely sane. Kate says that’s relatively speaking.

Johnny goes over the script and talks about thinking the stories are great, particularly pointing out that the one about the young couple. Abe says that he and Kate were just talking about that. Johnny reads the story summary and says he loves it. Abe says they’ll just have to find the right actors for the parts. Johnny then suggests Chanel for the role of Faith which surprises Abe. Johnny talks about how Chanel killed it when she auditioned for his movie about Marlena that didn’t get made. Abe asks about the Bakery. Johnny says Chanel was just telling him about she has free time and is looking for a new creative outlet. Abe says he can see Chanel in that part, so Johnny says now they just need to find a leading man that she has chemistry with…

Alex runs in to Chanel in the town square. Chanel asks how he is. Alex says he’s better than ever as he just got his annulment so he’s officially a free man. Chanel knows he must be relieved as she heard about how Theresa deceived him. Chanel says she’s sorry as that must have been rough. Alex says she definitely took him for a ride but says he can’t completely blame her because part of him knew he couldn’t completely trust her but he went with his gut. Chanel comments on how it sounds like Alex went with another part of his anatomy, as usual. Alex questions what she means by that. Chanel feels that Alex is driven by his hormones and that leads him to make questionable decisions. Alex asks if she cares to give an example. Chanel brings up when Alex slept with Allie while they were together.

Bonnie questions Justin not thinking she should sign the contract. Justin says she may never have acted before, but she obviously has talent and this is just the first offer, so he will try to negotiate a better deal for her. Bonnie admits she was nervous about what Justin might think of her acting on the show. Justin assures that he is so proud of her and jokes about being her plus one at the daytime Emmys. Bonnie tells Justin that she loves him as they kiss.

Leo calls Marlena and says he’s fine, claiming that there is no emergency after all and that he just panicked over a spider in his bathroom. Leo says they are still on for RuPaul’s Drag Race tomorrow and hangs up. Leo says he hates lying to Marlena, but it’s better than having her think that he needs to be committed. Kate informs Leo that he is the new head writer of Body and Soul which shocks him. Leo asks if this isn’t a prank. Kate assures that he will get his contract later by e-mail and congratulates him. Kate then exits. Leo declares that he is the head writer of a television show. Hattie exclaims that she is so happy for him and says now he can get busy fixing her script.

Stephanie tells Roman that she wouldn’t worry as she’s sure Kate is more than capable of handling her own. Roman warns that Kate can be a very tough boss. Stephanie assures that she can handle it. Roman tells Stephanie that he heard about Everett and he’s very sorry. Roman asks how she’s doing. Stephanie admits it’s been hard and now that the case is closed, Jada is going to release his ashes to her since they couldn’t locate any family. Stephanie declares it’s up to her to make sure that Everett is laid to rest. Roman hopes afterwards, she and Jada can both find peace and put this terrible tragedy behind them and move on.

Alex questions Chanel still holding a grudge against him for sleeping with Allie. Chanel points out that he did hook up with her while they were still in a relationship. Alex argues they were wasted and that Allie and Chanel were on the outs. Alex asks why it matters now that Chanel is happily married. Chanel shouts that Alex still slept with her girlfriend and that’s not okay. Alex repeats that they were on the outs and the time before that, the three of them had sex. Chanel calls that completely different because she and Allie were trying together to improve their relationship, claiming it had nothing to do with him. Alex disagrees, arguing that they were both all over him that night while Chanel says he was like a non-entity. Alex feels he played a big role while Chanel recalls it not being that big. Alex disagrees and asks why she’s being so petty. Johnny and Abe interrupt to ask what is going on. Chanel says it’s nothing but Johnny says it didn’t seem like it as they could hear them going at it from across the town square. Johnny remarks that the tension between them is off the charts. Abe adds that’s exactly what he was thinking…

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

Kayla is in her office at the hospital, finishing up a call to put a rush on Sarah’s test results. After she hangs up, Steve arrives and asks if it’s a bad time. Kayla tells him that she’s on a break. Steve asks how Sarah is doing. Kayla responds that she’s recovering from surgery but still doesn’t feel anything in her legs. Steve asks about that being temporary. Kayla says she hopes so and asks if Steve only came by to check on Sarah. Steve says also to see her beautiful face. Steve adds that he spoke to Jack, who told him that Jennifer just got in from Boston and they are going to see Abigail.

At the DiMera Mansion, Chad tells Jack and Jennifer that Abigail is nervous to see Jennifer. Jennifer says she’s nervous too to see her daughter. Jennifer asks if it’s true that she’s really alive and here. Jack responds that she really is.

“Abigail” remains in the bedroom and makes a phone call, saying everything is going according to plan.

Connie questions Melinda firing her and asks if Gabi knows about this. Melinda says not yet. Connie argues that Gabi will never stand for this. Melinda says that Gabi will when she finds out what she found out about Connie. Connie argues that she’s an open book and asks what she allegedly found out. Melinda informs her that she checked her references and her entire resume is a lie which company policy is very strict about, so there was no alternative. Connie argues that everyone lies on their resume. Melinda demands her laptop and badge but Connie says no way in hell. Melinda argues that those are DiMera property and orders her to return them. Connie complains about Melinda showing up at her door with no notice. Melinda then threatens to get the police involved. Connie tells Melinda that she can’t come in right now. Melinda asks if she has company.

At the Bistro, Gabi toasts to Ava for taking a chance on her and reviving Gabi Chic, even if it was out of guilt. Ava asks what she means. Gabi then calls Ava the lying, cheating bitch who slept with her husband. Ava questions what she just called her. Gabi asks what part she didn’t understand. Stefan asks what she’s talking about. Gabi tells him to spare her the innocent act because she knows they slept together. Stefan claims not to know where this is coming from and asks why she would think they slept together. Gabi questions this being how he’s going to play it. Stefan claims not to understand what’s going on. Gabi asks if he’s sure and warns that she’s giving him one last chance to come clean with her. Ava calls this ridiculous and asks where Gabi even got this idea. Gabi reveals that Connie told her everything.

Connie tells Melinda that she’s sorry but it’s not a good time for her. Melinda says that’s too bad and insists as DiMera’s general counsel that she let her in. Melinda reminds her that she has their property and she’d rather not bring the police in, but threatens to do so. Connie tells her that there’s no need to call the authorities and that she just needs a minute to straighten up. Connie shuts the door and worries about what to do.

Chad hopes that Jennifer is prepared for who Abigail is now. Jennifer asks if he’s talking about how different she looks. Chad talks about Abigail not remembering any of them or anything about her life. Jack says he explained that to her. Jennifer declares that no matter what, Abigail is her daughter and she’s alive, so she will accept whoever she is right now. Chad says he will go see what’s keeping her and exits the room.

Kayla tells Steve that even after Chad and Jack told her they found Abigail, she didn’t really expect the DNA test to confirm she was Abigail. Steve can’t imagine what it was like being there when they got the test results. Kayla states that they were all just stunned. Steve declares that now the healing can begin as Chad is back with his wife while Jack and Jennifer have their daughter back. Kayla notes that Abigail is so different, so she hopes that soon they will have her back in every way.

Abigail says on the phone that she needs to go as she’s already nervous enough as it is. She hangs up as Chad enters the room. She claims she was just talking to one of the nurses who took care of her in Poplar Bluff to tell her the good news that she found out who she is. Chad guesses she was happy that her family found her. She asks if everything is okay. Chad says he doesn’t want to pressure her but her mom and dad are waiting downstairs. Abigail tells him that she just needs two more minutes to get changed. Chad tells her that she doesn’t have to cover with him as he heard her say on the phone that she was nervous. Chad encourages that Jack and Jennifer love her and they’re just really happy to have her back so they don’t want to make her uncomfortable. She jokes about them being cool with having a daughter with amnesia. She thanks Chad for being patient with her. Chad responds that he will wait as long as she needs him to. Chad adds that maybe seeing her mom will bring something back. Chad says he’ll see her downstairs and exits.

Connie tells her cardboard cutout of Li that this is a total disaster and asks what she’s going to do now. Melinda knocks on the door, asking if they can get this over with. Connie worries about Gabi finding out why she really wanted the job and there goes her plan. Connie asks how she will get revenge on Gabi and Stefan for what they did to Li if she’s not Gabi’s assistant. Melinda knocks on the door, complaining that she doesn’t have all day. Connie then gets an idea.

Stefan questions Connie telling Gabi that he and Ava slept together. Ava asks where she would get that idea. Gabi responds that Connie overheard Ava talking about it in the office. Ava flashes back to telling Stefan that Connie might have overheard her and Kristen talking. Ava tells Gabi that Connie must be mistaken about what she heard. Stefan adds that he and Ava both told Gabi that they were pretending to date and that must have been what Ava was talking about. Gabi says she said the same thing to Connie, but Connie was insistent that she heard Ava and Stefan slept together while she was in prison. Stefan states that she heard wrong. Gabi asks if he’s saying Connie is a liar. Stefan states that she’s obviously mistaken. Gabi supposes that would be possible, but responds that if Connie was mistaken then so was Kristen. Gabi then reveals that Kristen confirmed it.

Melinda continues knocking on Connie’s door until she opens it again. Connie apologizes and allows Melinda inside. Melinda says she will need her laptop and DiMera ID. Connie asks if she can take a moment to explain and offers Melinda tea but she declines. Connie says she knows it was inexcusable but she was desperate to get the job. Connie says she’s deeply ashamed of the fraud and asks if Melinda’s never done something that she deeply regretted later. Melinda says they aren’t talking about her. Connie talks about Melinda being a woman of honor and servant to the public. Connie doesn’t expect Melinda to forgive her but says she just wants to tell her side and have some understanding. Melinda gives in and asks what she has to say. Connie calls it a long story and insists on fixing her some tea.

Gabi asks if Ava is surprised that her good friend gave her up or if Stefan didn’t think his sister would sell him out, pointing out that is what DiMeras do. Gabi adds that Kristen tried to back them up as long as she could, until she threatened to pull Gabi Chic from DiMera, then Kristen finally admitted the truth that Stefan and Ava did the dirty while she was locked up, fearing for her life. Gabi declares that deserves another toast and throws her champagne on Stefan.

Jennifer worries about Abigail having second thoughts about meeting her. Jack says this is difficult for everyone. Chad then returns and says that Abigail will be down in a minute. Chad asks if Jennifer is sure she’s ready for this. Jennifer assures that she is. Abigail then enters the room.

Kayla tells Steve that she keeps thinking about the moment after reading the DNA test results when Jack reached out to hug Abigail but she pushed him away. Kayla says Jack tried to play it off but she knows he was hurt. Steve talks about Jack saying it wasn’t the easiest reunion but he is optimistic that Abigail could get her memory back. Kayla confirms it could just be a psychological issue and there’s a chance that she could make a full recovery. Kayla notes that some patients do but there’s no way to know when or if Abigail will recover. Steve says it’s a good thing that she has people around her who love her and are willing to support her through this, no matter how long it takes, including her uncle Steve and her amazing aunt Kayla. Steve adds that from what Jack told him, Abigail spent the last few years being lied to by Clyde Weston, so now that she’s home in Salem around all the people and things she knows, maybe it will cut through all of that.

Abigail approaches Jennifer and they greet each other. Jennifer reaches out to her, but then pulls her hand back and declares this is not her daughter. Jennifer then apologizes. Jack promises her that this is their daughter. Chad argues that the DNA test proved it. Abigail says she knows she looks different and she’s sorry she doesn’t remember her, but she knows how she must be feeling. Jennifer repeats that she’s so sorry as she doesn’t know why she’s reacting this way and she thought she was ready for this. Jack tries to encourage her but Jennifer cries that she thought she would still feel a connection to her daughter, but she doesn’t feel anything. Jennifer repeats that she’s sorry as she breaks down and runs out of the room.

Connie pours tea for Melinda and tells her that she knows it was wrong to embellish but she really wanted the job. Melinda says she agreed to hear her story but she’s saying nothing. Melinda question what it was about the job that she wanted it so bad for instead of finding one more suitable to her qualifications. Connie responds that she didn’t just want a job, she wanted this job, declaring that she had to work for Gabi. Melinda didn’t know Gabi was that important to Connie and remarks that she must really be a fan. Connie laughs at that and reveals to Melinda that she hates Gabi’s guts.

Stefan asks Gabi if they can talk about this in private. Gabi yells at Ava to go to the office and pack her stuff because she made it very clear to Kristen that she has no intention of working with her if she wants to keep Gabi Chic. Ava questions Gabi making Kristen choose between them. Stefan holds Gabi back as Ava calls her vindictive. Ava wishes Stefan luck and walks out of the Bistro. Gabi shoves Stefan, asking how could he.

Jack tells Abigail that he’s very sorry as this has been very hard on Jennifer. Abigail says she gets it and would react the same way. Chad encourages that it’s going to be okay and they will work it out. Abigail decides that she will go upstairs and let them have some time, so she exits. Chad didn’t think Jennifer would react that way. Jack didn’t think she thought she would either. Chad complains that Jennifer was rejecting her daughter. Jack tries to argue that wasn’t what happened so Chad questions what he would call it then. Chad argues that they worked really hard to gain Abigail’s trust and this was a giant step backwards which Jack agrees with. Chad declares that they have to do damage control or they are going to drive Abigail away from them for good. Chad and Jack make a decision on what to do as Jennifer returns to the room. Jack asks how she is. Jennifer says she’s alright but can’t believe she ran out like that and she’s so sorry. Jennifer asks where Abigail is. Jack says she went upstairs to give them some alone time. Jennifer can’t believe she reacted so badly and suggests maybe they should come back another time. Jack reveals that he and Chad actually think they should head back to Boston. Jennifer questions wanting to leave already. Jack says it’s just until Abigail gets her memory back. Jennifer doesn’t understand. Jack explains that they are just concerned that they are forcing things and it’s just too hard. Jennifer doesn’t want to abandon Abigail. Jack says they just want everyone to have space to absorb this as it’s too much pressure on her. Chad tells them about hearing her on the phone with a nurse and that she’s really struggling. Jack declares that once Abigail gets her memory back, things will all be different as she won’t look the same but she will be Abigail in every sense of the word. Jennifer asks if this is how they both feel. Chad clarifies it’s not that he wants her to leave. Jennifer argues that she can react better now that she’s more prepared. Chad worries that her sense that it’s not her daughter won’t go anywhere even if she hides it, so he doesn’t think it’s good for anyone. Jennifer agrees that Abigail needs room to find herself and them being around just makes it more complicated. Jennifer hates leaving as it feels like giving up, but Jack insists it is not that at all. Jack declares that they will never give up and that when Abigail is ready, she will come to them and they will be there to love and cherish her.

Stefan knows Gabi is upset but says what happened between he and Ava was not planned. Gabi questions him finally admitting it. Stefan calls it a moment of weakness as he was very drunk and missing Gabi. Stefan talks about how hard it was to live without her. Gabi mocks him and talks about how hard it was for her in prison, fighting for her life. Stefan says he was fighting for her but Gabi doesn’t want to hear it. Gabi complains that she got beaten up and thrown in to solitary while Stefan was with Ava. Stefan swears it only happened once. Gabi questions why she should believe him. Stefan says because he loves her. Stefan knows she hates him right now and has every right to, but argues that she can’t hate him nearly as much as he hates himself. Stefan admits what he did was horrible and he wishes he could go back to change everything, but he can’t. Stefan repeats that it was a mistake that he will never make again because he loves Gabi. Stefan says if Gabi lets him, he will spend the rest of their lives making it up to her.

Melinda questions Connie saying she hates Gabi. Connie states that she despises Gabi with every fiber of her being and Stefan too. Melinda asks why. Connie reminds Melinda of what they did to Li, shattering his heart in the process. Melinda realizes this is about Li Shin. Connie calls him a dear sweet prince of a man and says that he was a broken shell because of them. Connie blames Gabi and Stefan for being the reason they couldn’t be together. Melinda questions Connie wanting to be with Li. Connie says that she was in love with Li and that they were meant for each other. Melinda points out that they only went on one date. Connie complains that maybe if Melinda hadn’t barged in to Li’s life, they might have gone on more. Melinda had no idea that Connie had such strong feelings for Li. Connie informs Melinda that she moved in to his old apartment because she wanted to feel close to him. Connie then pours more tea for Melinda and talks about how the apartment is a great space for operations on getting revenge for Li’s death. Connie remarks that it was Gabi and Melinda’s faults that Li was killed which Melinda questions. Connie didn’t know that this would work but says Melinda actually bought her apology. Melinda argues that the only one responsible for Li’s death is the man who stabbed him, Gil Carter. Connie responds that Gil didn’t stab Li. Melinda suddenly starts to feel sick. Connie then reveals that she spiked Melinda’s tea with Digoxin. Melinda questions what it does. Connie says she will see and points out that luckily no one knows she’s there. Melinda brings up Ava knowing that she’s there and scrambles to get her phone out of her purse.

Chad tells Jack that he will check in with him every day and let him know if anything changes. Jack thanks Chad for taking care of their girl. Abigail comes back downstairs and questions them leaving. Jennifer says they are just going to head back to Boston for a little while and that they will tell JJ to postpone his trip for awhile. Jennifer explains that they want to be there but feel it might be overwhelming. Abigail tells Jennifer that it was nice to meet her. Jack adds that they are just a phone call away if she needs anything. Chad then walks out with Jack and Jennifer.

Stefan asks Gabi to let him explain but Gabi doesn’t want to hear it. Gabi says that Kristen already tried to make her understand his feelings, but it didn’t work because she doesn’t give a damn about how bad he feels about betraying her. Gabi tells Stefan that nothing excuses what he did to her. Gabi complains that she suffered while Stefan was out with Ava. Gabi brings up her first night out of prison and how she went on and on about how much she missed him and longed for him. Gabi argues that she just assumed he felt the same way but he didn’t wait for her. Gabi remarks that their wedding vows meant so little to him that he just jumped in to bed with the next available warm body. Stefan cries that it wasn’t like that and what he did was horrible. Stefan asks if they can go home and talk this through. Gabi asks if he’s serious and shouts that she’s never going home with him ever again. Stefan questions what she means. Gabi declares their marriage is over. Stefan argues that she doesn’t mean that. Gabi says she does and tells Stefan not to touch her as she storms out of the Bistro.

Ava walks through the town square and calls Kristen, leaving a message that she shouldn’t be surprised that Kristen didn’t have her back with Gabi since DiMeras always put business ahead of friendship and loyalty. Ava then sees she has a missed call from Melinda.

Connie takes Melinda’s phone and says that she was so close to leaving a message. Connie adds that she wasn’t planning on poisoning Melinda, but she couldn’t risk her exposing them. Connie then remarks that she hoped Melinda enjoyed the tea as Melinda lays passed out on the couch.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[siren blares]

Well, if you could put a rush on it, I’d really appreciate it. And let me know as soon as you have Dr. Horton’s test results back, OK? Thank you. Oh. Bye-bye. Hey.

Hey, baby.

Hey, lover. How are you?

Good. Is this a bad time?

No, no, I’m on a break.

OK, well, I thought it was about lunch time. So how is Sarah doing?

Well, she’s recovering from the surgery, but she still doesn’t feel anything in her legs.

Well, you said that could be temporary though, right? A result of swelling in the spine?

I sure hope so. So is that the only reason you came by is to check on Sarah?

And to see your beautiful face. And also, I spoke to Jack. He told me that Jennifer just got in from Boston.

[dramatic music]

Has she seen Abigail yet?

Not yet, but they should be at the mansion as we speak.

You told Abigail we’re here, I assume.

Yeah, she’s fine with it. You know, she’s nervous to see you, of course, but it’s been a long time.

Yeah, well, I admit I’m nervous too. I mean, to get to see my daughter, my precious girl. My God, I mean, is it true? Is she really alive? Is she here?

She is. She really is.

[laughs]

Hey, it’s me. Everything’s going according to plan.

Fired? What? Does Gabi know about this?

No, not yet.

Well, she’ll never stand for this.

She will when she hears what I found out about you.

I’m an open book. What did you allegedly find out?

I checked your references. Your entire résumé is a lie. Company policy is clear and leaves me with no alternatives.

What? Everyone lies on their resume.

I’ll need to collect your laptop and your badge. So please open the door and allow me to retrieve them.

No way in hell.

They are DiMera property, Connie. And you signed a statement saying that you would return them upon demand, which you are going to do right now.

On demand is one thing. Showing up at my door with no notice is quite another.

I’m fairly sure that you do not want me to get the police involved.

You can’t come in. Not now.

Oh, no? why not? You have company?

[delicate jazz music]

Let’s toast. To Ava Vitali, who took a chance on me and revived Gabi Chic. Even if it was out of guilt.

Guilt? What do you mean?

To the lying, cheating bitch who slept with my husband.

[tense music]

I’m sorry, what did you just call me?

What part of lying, cheating bitch didn’t you understand?

Gabi, what are you talking about?

Oh, spare me the innocent act. I know you two slept together.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Gabi, I don’t know where this is coming from. Why would you think Ava and I slept together?

OK, so this is how you’re gonna play it.

Play what? OK, I don’t even understand what’s going on here.

Are you sure about that? I’m giving you one last chance to come clean with me.

OK, this is ridiculous. Gabi, where did you even get this idea?

From my assistant Connie. She told me everything.

I’m sorry, Miss Trask, this is just not a good time for me.

That’s too bad, Miss Viniski. Because as general counsel for DiMera, I really must insist you let me in. You have our property, and as I said, I’d rather not bring the police into this. But as the former DA, I do have many contacts in the department that would be more than happy to–

OK, OK, no need to involve the authorities. I just need a minute to straighten up.

Oh, it’s–

Holy moly. Now What do we do?

[tense music]

Jennifer, I hope you are prepared for who Abby is now.

Well, if you’re talking about how different she looks–

No, no, I’m not talking about how different she looks. She doesn’t remember us, Jennifer. She doesn’t know anything about her life.

Oh, no, I know. I know.

I explained it to her.

Yeah, but no matter what, no matter how ever she looks, whatever she remembers, she’s my daughter, and she’s back, and she’s alive. I will accept whoever she is right now.

OK. I’m just gonna go see what’s keeping her, OK?

[laughs]

[soft dramatic music]

I have to say that even after Chad and Jack told me that they had found her, I really didn’t expect for the DNA test to confirm that she was our Abigail.

Yeah, well, I can’t even imagine what it was like standing there with the three of them when they got the results.

We were all just stunned. What Jack and Chad were feeling, oh, my God.

Yeah, well, listen baby, now the healing can begin. Chad is back with his wife, the mother of his children. Jack and Jennifer have their daughter back.

But she is so different.

I hope that soon they will have their daughter back in every way.

OK. Yeah, OK. I need to go. I’m already nervous enough as it is. Bye.

[knocking] Oh, my God. Come in. Oh, hey. Hi.

Hi.

I was just talking to one of the nurses who took care of me while I was at the hospital at Poplar Bluff. Had tell her the good news. Found out who I am.

This nurse, she was with you after the accident?

From the very beginning. Yeah.

Well, she must be really happy that your family found you.

She was. Yeah, is everything OK?

Yeah. Yeah, sorry. I don’t want to pressure you, but your mom and dad are waiting for you downstairs.

Right. I’m so sorry. OK, can you just tell them I need like two more minutes? I haven’t even had a chance to change yet.

Sure.

OK.

Uh, wait– You don’t have to worry about covering with me.

Covering?

I just heard you telling the nurse that you were nervous, you know, and of course you are. It makes sense, but your mom and dad, they love you, and they’re just really happy to have you back. You know, the last thing they want to do is make you uncomfortable.

Oh, yeah, so they’re totally cool with having an amnesiac daughter then.

[laughs]

I don’t know. That depends on your definition of cool, I suppose.

[laughs] Chad, thank you.

For what?

For being patient with me.

I’ll wait as long as you need me to. And who knows? Maybe seeing your mom will, uh, you know, bring something back.

Yeah, maybe.

OK, I’ll see you downstairs.

Yes.

I don’t know what you’re smiling at. This is a disaster, a total disaster. What am I going to do now, Li?

[knocking] – Miss Viniski, can we please get this over with?

One minute please! It’ll be over with, that’s for sure. As soon as she– as Gabi finds out about the holes in my résumé, she’ll figure out why I really wanted that job. There goes my perfect plan. Damn it, Li, how am I going to get revenge on Gabi and that philandering husband of hers for what they did to you if I’m not Gabi’s right hand woman?

[knocking] – Miss Viniski, I can’t stay here all day.

Of course, why didn’t I think of this before?

Your assistant, Connie, told you that Ava and I slept together.

I mean, come on, where would she get that idea?

[tense music]

From you. She overheard you talking about it in the office.

Something happened at the office today.

Care to be more specific?

OK, I could be overreacting, but I don’t know.

Does this have something to do with Gabi?

Sort of. It has to do with her new assistant.

Connie.

Yeah.

What about her?

OK, well, Kristen and I, we were talking, um, about what happened between us, and Connie, she sort of walked in on it.

So the nutjob heard you?

No, I don’t know. I don’t know. Kristen is pretty sure that she didn’t.

Oh, pretty sure?

Yeah. It’s not like we could ask her, right?

OK, what exactly did you say? Did you explicitly say that you and I slept together?

I believe so.

This is bad. This is so bad.

She must be mistaken about what she heard.

Yeah. Ava and I both told you that we were pretending to date while we were trying to get your conviction overturned. That must be what Ava was talking about.

I said the same thing to Connie, but she was insistent that she heard what she heard, and what she heard was that the two of you slept together while I was in prison.

Well, she was wrong.

So you’re saying she’s a liar?

OK, what I’m saying is she’s obviously mistaken.

OK, I suppose that would be possible.

But if Connie was mistaken, then so was Kristen.

Kristen?

Oh, I didn’t mention it. Your sister confirmed it.

Miss Viniski, if you don’t open this door in the next second–

Sorry about that. I really should keep a tidier home. Come on in.

[ominous music]

I’ll need that laptop and your DiMera ID.

Of course. But if I could just take a moment to explain about my résumé. I made us some tea.

I don’t need tea, and there’s nothing to explain. Those issues with your résumé are just–

Inexcusable. I realize that. But I was desperate to get that job, so I made a bad decision.

So you’re admitting to the fraud?

Of course, and I’m deeply ashamed. But haven’t you ever done something you’re not proud of? But you did it because you felt you had no other choice, even if you regretted it later?

We’re not talking about me.

Look, I know you’re an upstanding person, a former public servant, a woman of character. So maybe you don’t know what it’s like to feel that pressure– to wrestle with your conscience. I don’t expect you to forgive me, but I would like a chance to tell my side. I’m just asking for some understanding.

Fine. What do you have to say?

Well, it’s kind of a long story. That tea, let me fix you some.

So you’re surprised that your good friend gave you up, huh? And you probably didn’t think that your sister would sell you out. But I mean, that is what the DiMeras do, right?

Gabi, please.

In her defense, she tried to back you up as long as she could. It was not easy to crack her until I threatened to pull Gabi Chic from DiMera. That’s when she finally admitted the truth that you two were doing the dirty while I was locked up fearing my life. And I think that deserves another toast, don’t you?

[dramatic music]

Do you think she’s having second thoughts about meeting me?

Jennifer, I don’t know. I just– this is really– this is difficult for everyone, obviously.

[door clicks]

Sorry, it’s just me. She’ll be down in a minute. Are you sure you’re ready for this?

Of course I’m ready for this. Not that I know how I’m gonna to react when I see her.

I keep thinking about the moment right after we read the DNA results. I mean, Jack impulsively reached out to hug Abigail, but she pushed him away. I mean, he tried to make light of it. He apologized for being so forward, but I know that he was hurt.

Yeah, when I talked to Jack, I got the impression that it hadn’t been the easiest reunion. But he is optimistic. I mean, it is possible that she could get her memory back soon, right?

Yeah. Yeah, it is. I mean, with this kind of memory loss, it could just be a psychological issue, you know, the brain trying to protect itself from a trauma that it’s experienced. And if that’s the case, and it’s not a physical issue, then there’s a chance she could make a full recovery.

Only a chance?

Look, there are patients who make a full recovery and then there are others that– well, I mean, you know there’s really no way to know when or even if Abigail’s going to recover.

Well, then it’s a good thing she has people around her who love her, who are willing to support her and get her through this no matter how long it takes, including her Uncle Steve and her amazing Aunt Kayla.

You know it.

You know, from what Jack told me, Abigail spent the last few years being lied to and indoctrinated by Clyde Weston. But now that she’s home here in Salem around all the people and things she knows, maybe it’ll cut through all that.

[soft dramatic music]

Yeah. I pray you’re right.

Hello.

Hi.

I’m Jennifer.

I know.

[tense music]

This isn’t my daughter.

Oh, I’m so sorry.

Jennifer, look, I know it’s shocking to see Abigail looking so different, but I promise you, this is our daughter.

The DNA test proves it, Jennifer.

No, no, no, I can’t.

I know that I don’t look the same, and I’m sorry that I don’t remember you, but I do understand what you must be feeling.

Oh, God, I am so sorry. I’m so sorry. I don’t know why I’m reacting this way. I thought I was ready for this.

It’s OK.

No, it’s not OK, Jack!

Jennifer, just stop.

I’m sorry. Look, I just thought– I just thought that even if she looked different, if I got close, I would still see my daughter. I would still feel a connection to her. But I don’t feel– I don’t feel anything! I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry!

[tense music]

I know it’s wrong to, you know, embellish a résumé. I just really, really wanted that job.

You didn’t embellish, Connie. You made it all up.

When you say all–

Look, I said I would listen to your story, but so far, you’re saying a lot of nothing.

I’m getting there.

Just tell me, what was so important about this job that it was worth lying for? Like, couldn’t you have just found a job that was more suited to your qualifications or lack thereof?

I didn’t just need a job, I needed this job. I had to work for Gabi.

Wow. I didn’t know she was that important to you. You must really be a fan.

[ominous music]

[chuckles] A fan, please. I hate her guts.

How about you, Ava? You want some of this?

Gabi, Gabi, please, please. Can we please just talk about this alone?

Sure. Let’s do that. Why don’t you go back to the office and pack up your stuff.

What the hell are you talking about?

I made it very clear to Kristen I have no intention of working with you. So if she wanted to keep Gabi Chic, and you know she does, she needed to send you back to unemployment.

You made her choose? You made her choose between us?

You want to guess where she landed.

Oh, you vindictive–

Go ahead, finish that thought!

[tense music]

Good luck.

Alone at last. How could you, Stefan? How could you?

I am so very sorry. As you can imagine, this has been very hard on your mother.

Yeah, no, no, I get it. I mean, I would probably react the same way.

It’s gonna be OK, right? We just need some time to work it out. That’s all.

Mm-hmm.

I think I’m just gonna go back upstairs and let you guys have some time to yourselves.

You don’t have to do that.

No, no, it’s OK. I think, um– I think we weren’t ready for this. Yeah.

[dramatic music]

[sighs]

Well, I didn’t think Jennifer would react that way.

I don’t think Jennifer thought she’d react that way, either.

I mean, look, I get we’re trying to figure out what this is, but for a mother to reject her daughter?

She did not reject her.

What do you call that then?

She was– all right, all right, I could see how Abigail would feel that way, but it was not intentional.

My point is is we worked really hard to get her trust. This was a giant step backwards, Jack.

On that, we both agree.

OK, then, so we have to do some damage control, or we’re gonna drive her away from us for good.

Sure you’re OK with this decision?

I– It’s not something I’d choose, but given the situation, it’s the right thing to do. Hey. How do you feel?

Ah, I don’t know. I’m all right, I guess. I cannot believe I ran out of here like that. I am so, so sorry.

You don’t have to apologize, Jennifer.

Yeah.

Where did you go?

I just walked around the garden. I just needed to be with myself for a minute. Where is Abigail?

She went upstairs. She decided to give us a little alone time.

Right. Ugh, I cannot believe I have reacted so badly. Maybe we should come back another time.

Uh, actually, Chad and I were talking, and we think that, well, we think you and I should head back to Boston.

[soft dramatic music]

You want to leave already?

Just until Abigail gets her memory back.

I don’t– I don’t understand. Did she say something?

No, no, this is us. We just– we’re concerned that we’re forcing things. It’s just too hard.

For her or for me?

For both of you.

Of course it’s hard. Of course it’s hard. This is hard. But I don’t want to abandon her.

You’re not abandoning anyone. We just– we want everyone to have a little bit of space to absorb this. This, it’s just too much pressure on her.

I heard her talking to a nurse that took care of her after the accident. She’s really struggling, Jennifer.

But when she gets her memory back, this will all be different. She won’t look the same, but she will be Abigail in every sense of the word.

And this is how you both feel?

It’s not that I want you to leave. But your reaction–

I’ll be different. I’ll be better now that I’m more prepared.

But that sense that she’s not your daughter, that’s not gonna go anywhere, even if you get better at hiding it.

I just don’t think it’s good for anyone.

No, you’re right. You’re right. You’re right. I mean, she needs room to find herself. And us being around, that just makes it more complicated. I just hate leaving. You know, it feels like giving up.

It is not that at all.

No.

We will never give up. When she’s good and ready, Abigail will come to us, and we’ll be there to love and to cherish her.

OK, Gabi, I know you’re upset. No, no, no, no, wait. But what happened between me and Ava, it was not planned.

Oh, so you’re admitting it finally?

OK, look, it was a moment of weakness. I was very drunk.

Oh.

I was missing you.

OK, so it’s my fault.

No, no, I’m just trying to convey to you that I was missing you and how hard it was to live without you.

Oh, I am so sorry for you.

[dramatic music] It wasn’t hard for me at all. You, all alone in your big soft bed. But I was lucky. I had a double murderer cellmate to keep me company.

I know you had it way worse.

Way worse? I was fighting for my life!

I was fighting for you too.

I don’t want to hear it. I got beaten up, thrown into solitary, and where were you? Having it off with your mafia queen?

It happened once, I swear.

Why should I believe you?

Because– Because I love you.

I know you hate me right now, and you have got every right. But you could not hate me nearly as much as I hate myself.

Are you sure about that?

Yes, yes, what I did– what I did was horrible. It was horrible. And if I could go back to that night and change everything, I would.

[foot slams]

But I can’t, OK? It was a mistake, a mistake I will never make again. I love you. Look at me. If you let me, I will spend the rest of our lives making it up to you.

– You hate Gabi?

Despise her with every fiber of my being. Her husband too.

Why do you hate Gabi and Stefan?

You can’t figure it out? You know what they did to poor Li. How they tricked him and stole his DiMera shares and shattered his heart in the process.

This is about Li Shin?

That dear, sweet prince of a man. He was a broken shell thanks to them. They are the reason why he and I could never be together.

So you wanted to be with Li?

Of course, I wanted to be with Li. I love him. He and I were meant for each other.

[chuckles] I thought you only went on, like, one date with the guy.

Well, maybe if you hadn’t barged your way into his life, we would have gone on more.

I had no idea you had such strong feelings for Li.

Why else would I move into this place? I wanted to feel close to him. Here, have some more tea.

[ominous music]

Thank you.

It really is a great space, huh? And an even better base of operations.

Operations? For what?

For getting revenge, of course.

Revenge?

Yes, for Li’s death. It was Gabi’s fault that Li was killed. And yours.

[laughs] What? Mine?

You know, I didn’t know if this would work, but you actually bought my little apology.

The only person that is to blame for Li’s death is Gil Carter, the man who stabbed him.

Gil Carter didn’t stab Li, silly.

What– what are you–

[inhales sharply]

What’s wrong, Melinda?

I– I don’t feel so good.

Huh, it must be the digoxin.

Digoxin?

Digoxin. Fast acting, very effective, fantastic drug.

What does it do?

You’ll see. Luckily, no one knows you’re here. And even if they did, it worked perfectly last time.

What do you mean?

Nothing.

[suspenseful music]

Ava. Ava knows I’m here.

[bag rustling]

I’ll check in with you every day, let you know if anything changes.

Thank you, Chad. Thank you for taking care of our girl.

Always.

[soft dramatic music]

You’re leaving?

Yeah.

Yes. Yeah, we’re just gonna head back to Boston, you know, for a little while, and we’ll tell JJ to postpone his trip as well.

Oh, I see.

Yeah, yeah, it’s not that we don’t want to be here. Of course, we want to be here. It’s just we think that it might all be a little overwhelming.

Right. I mean, you know, too much for you to deal with.

Yeah.

Parents hanging around.

Right. Yeah.

Well, it was nice to meet you. I mean–

No, no, no, we know what you mean.

Yeah. And then, if you need anything, anything at all, we’re here. Just a phone call away. Just give us a call.

Bye.

Yeah, I’ll walk you out.

Gabi, if you’d please just let me explain.

I don’t want to hear it, Stefan! Kristen already tried to make me understand your feelings.

She did?

Yeah, but it didn’t work because I don’t give a damn about how bad you feel about betraying me!

[tense music]

Nothing excuses what you did to me! I suffered while you were out here with her! That first night, when I got out, I went on and on about how much I missed you, how much I longed for you. And stupid me, I just assumed that you felt the same way.

I did.

Please! You didn’t wait for me.

Our marriage vows meant so little to you that you just jumped into bed with the next warm, available body.

No, no, no, it wasn’t like that.

What I did was horrible. Please, can we please go home and talk this through?

Are you serious right now? You think I’m going home with you. I am never going home with you ever again. Don’t touch me.

What do you mean?

What do you mean?

I mean our marriage is over.

No. No. No.

You don’t mean that. You don’t mean that.

Yes I do.

You don’t mean that. No.

Don’t touch me. Don’t touch me. Don’t touch me!

Kristen, it’s Ava. I just wanted to thank you so much for having my back with Gabi. Yeah, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised though, right? Because DiMeras always put business ahead of friendship and loyalty, right?

[ominous music]

– Poor Melinda. She was so close to leaving that message.

What? I wasn’t planning on poisoning her. But I couldn’t risk her exposing us, could I?

Well, I hope she enjoyed the tea.

Interview with David Arquette

TV Interview!

Robert Schwartzman and David Arquette of "The Good Half," out in theaters now (photos from their Instagrams)

Interview with director Robert Schwartzman and actor David Arquette for the film,”The Good Half” by Suzanne 8/6 and 8/8/24

This movie is one that everyone should watch. It does deal with family drama and grief, but it’s also heartwarming and funny, and it has some romance. To my mind, it’s not morbid, nor is it overly sentimental. It’s out in theaters now, and you shouldn’t miss it. Nick Jonas stars and shows us that he is a fine actor (and not just the great singer he has proven many times over).  There are many lovely performances in the movie. It has a great cast. David Arquette has a small but important role as Nick’s stepfather. He plays it masterfully.  It was so interesting to speak with these two about this movie. Don’t miss it!

Days Short Recap Friday, August 16, 2024

Daytime Soap Opera Short Recaps

Days of Our Lives logo

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Gabi slammed Stefan’s picture down on her desk. Connie called her pretending to be sick. Gabi wanted her to stay home and take care of herself. Connie wondered if she was going to get her revenge on Stefan and Ava yet. Gabi needed proof first. Kristen walked in the office, and she figured out how she could get the proof she needed. Connie looked at the Li cutout and said she wanted to play hooky to spend time with him. Melinda met with Ava at the square to let her know that everything on Connie’s resume was a lie. Ava tried to downplay it, but Melinda knew someone who worked where Connie said she did. Connie was a nightmare, and they gave her a good reference to make her go away. Melinda wanted Connie to get fired. Ava was supposed to let Gabi know. Jack told Julie that Abby was alive. Abby was wearing a silk robe at the DiMera mansion. Stefan saw her and wondered who she was. Chad told him that she was Abby. They told Stefan about her plastic surgery and that she had amnesia. Kristen talked to Gabi about Sarah getting hit by someone driving a gray car. Gabi remembered that Ava drove a gray car. She said it couldn’t be Ava because she was sleeping with her husband. Kristen thought she was imagining things. Gabi knew she didn’t imagine anything. She threatened to take her company to DiMera’s biggest competitor if Kristen didn’t tell her the truth. Kristen confirmed that Stefan slept with Ava. Stefan thanked Chad for not telling Abby about their past. Chad knew he was talking about the rape. He thought it would be too traumatic for her to find that out. Stefan thought he should tell her some things because the memories might trigger something she’s not prepared for.

Julie thought Jennifer should learn the truth about Abby. Jennifer arrived at the Horton house. She needed to see her daughter. Jack told her that Abby was fragile and didn’t think they should push her. Jennifer was determined to see Abby. Stefan insisted that Chad tell Abby about the bad things that happened to her. Chad got frustrated by what he said. He wants to manage everyone’s needs. Chad left to take a call from Jack. Abby picked up a photo of herself (it was a picture of Marci Miller). She sat down and looked at the room. Chad walked in and wondered what she was doing. She felt like something drew her to the room. He told her it was their room, and she was stabbed there. Chad let her know that Jennifer wanted to see her. Jack warned Jennifer that seeing Abby wouldn’t be easy. He told her that she doesn’t look like herself or have her memories. Kristen tried to tell Gabi that Stefan and Ava felt bad about what happened. She said they were only together once. Gabi said it should have been zero times. Ava showed up, so Gabi pretended to be nice to her. She invited Ava to lunch with her. Ava left to meet Gabi at the Bistro. Kristen wanted to know what Gabi was going to do. She told Kristen to have patience. If she wanted Gabi Chic to launch, Kristen had to do exactly what she told her. Melinda saw Connie and let her know that she was fired. She wanted her to turn in her badge and work laptop. Connie refused to let her in her apartment to get them. Melinda planned to get the police involved. Ava and Gabi were at the Bistro. She was about to tell Gabi about Connie when Stefan arrived. Gabi motioned for Stefan to come to their table. They were about to make a toast when Gabi thought Ava wanted to help with the line out of guilt for sleeping with her husband. Chad hugged Jennifer. Upstairs, Abby called someone and let them know that everything was going according to plan.

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

At the DiMera Office, Gabi is at her desk and looks at a photo of her and Stefan. Gabi gets a call from Connie. Gabi thought she would be here by now but Connie claims she’s getting a cold and asks to stay home today. Gabi tells her to feel better soon. Connie says she’s more worried about how Gabi is feeling as she’s sure that she will feel better after she gets her revenge on Stefan for cheating on her with Ava.

Ava meets Melinda in the town square. Melinda tells her that this is about a sensitive personnel matter that she didn’t feel comfortable bringing up in the office. Melinda informs Ava that a major indiscretion has come up and consider who it involves, it will need to be dealt with very delicately.

Jack reunites with Julie at the Horton House, explaining that they got back very late. Julie asks what happened with the girl in the video. Jack reveals that it was Abigail and confirms she is alive which thrills Julie.

Abigail comes downstairs and in to the living room of the DiMera Mansion. She looks up at the portrait of Stefano and comments that he always looks like he knows something the rest of them don’t. Chad comes in and greets her, asking if she slept okay. Abigail tells him that she slept better than she can remember since she didn’t have an actual bed in Poplar Bluff. Abigail mentions not being a breakfast person. Stefan comes in and greets Chad, asking when he got there. Chad informs him that he slept there. Stefan jokes about Chad coming over for a sleepover. Stefan guesses Chad’s friend knows Gabi since she’s wearing one of her robes. Abigail apologizes and says she needed something and it was in one of the bathrooms. Stefan then asks if Chad is going to introduce them. Chad responds that they’ve already met and reveals this is Abigail, leaving Stefan confused. Stefan says he doesn’t understand. Chad reminds him that he’s been looking for the woman in the video that Clyde sent him and they found her. Stefan knows Chad has had it very rough since that night, but tells him that this is not Abigail. Chad then reveals that the DNA test said it is.

Ava asks Melinda to just say what she has to tell her. Melinda clarifies that it’s about Connie. Ava says she should discuss that with Gabi since Connie is her direct report. Melinda points out that Gabi hired Connie but Ava hired Gabi. Ava questions that making it her problem. Melinda doesn’t think Gabi will be very receptive to pushback about her right hand woman. Ava then asks what Connie did.

Connie asks Gabi when she’s going to pull the trigger and put her revenge plan in to action. Gabi says not now. Connie doesn’t understand. Gabi explains that she’s not doing anything until she has absolute proof that Stefan had an affair with Ava. Kristen then arrives at the office. Gabi tells Connie that she knows just how she’s going to get that proof.

Melinda talks to Ava about the reasons Connie would be living in Li Shin’s old place, but they never pinned down why because they couldn’t but she needed to find out. Melinda says she went back to Connie’s employment file, paying special attention to her resumé and references. Ava asks what she found. Melinda reveals that everything in it is a lie and calls Connie a total fraud.

Connie questions how Gabi is going to prove Stefan cheated on her. Gabi says maybe later as she has to get back to work. Connie wishes her luck and tells her to call if she needs anything as they hang up. Connie then tells herself that she might miss fireworks at the office, but she stayed home to spend a glorious day with her cutout of Li.

Stefan questions Chad telling him that this is Abigail with plastic surgery and amnesia. Abigail points out that she doesn’t remember Stefan at all but they obviously knew each other. Chad explains that Stefan is his half-brother. Abigail tells him that it’s nice to meet him again. Stefan jokes that he fully expects to wake up at any moment now. Abigail asks if they were close. Stefan says they had a complicated relationship which Chad calls an understatement.

Ava tells Melinda that it doesn’t track since DiMera is a big company so someone would’ve checked Connie out. Melinda points out that it wouldn’t have gone through the regular channels since it was a hire for Gabi Chic. Ava feels Gabi would’ve checked then but Melinda points out how Connie immediately made herself indispensable so that Gabi dropped it, being swamped with her launch and Rafe in the hospital. Ava feels Connie must have some work history. Ava adds that Gabi called Connie outstanding. Ava feels Connie isn’t the first person to lie on a resumé . Melinda tells her that people she reached out to about Connie used the words overzealous and psychotic. Ava jokes that worse has been said about her while Melinda jokes that she wouldn’t have hired Ava either. Melinda talks about Connie getting a favorable reference from her previous job just to go away. Ava asks if they are supposed to tell Gabi or give Connie a warning. Melinda declares that Connie needs to be terminated immediately.

Connie tells her cutout of Li that she’s excited to spend the day with him and then sets up her voicemail on her phone.

Kristen picks up Gabi’s photo of her and Stefan, saying she must have knocked it over by mistake. Gabi asks what she can do for her. Kristen says she was just checking in and asks if she ever made it home last night. Gabi says she had too much to do. Kristen appreciates her work ethic, especially since she will be making a profit off it. Kristen talks about everyone needing a work-life balance and points out that Gabi and Stefan have spent so much time apart that it’s not good for the relationship. Kristen suggests changing that before it becomes a problem. Kristen talks about planning out her time with Rachel and not being prepared for a crime scene on their way which Gabi questions. Kristen informs her that Sarah was seriously injured by a hit and run driver in the town square parking lot. Gabi asks if they know who did it. Kristen says that Paulina is looking for someone who was driving a gray car. Gabi brings up that Ava drives a gray car. Kristen asks if she’s telling her that Ava is the hit and run driver. Gabi says no because Ava was too busy sleeping with her husband. Kristen tries to laugh it off but Gabi says it apparently was one time. Kristen questions her thinking that. Gabi responds that she doesn’t think, she knows that Stefan slept with Ava while she was languishing away in prison. Kristen claims that she doesn’t buy it. Gabi questions Kristen not hearing any rumors. Kristen says she hasn’t and insists that Stefan never stopped loving her, so she thinks Gabi’s imagination is just running wild. Gabi remarks that she’s surprised Kristen is digging so hard in to this since Connie swears she overheard Kristen and Ava talking about it. Kristen argues that Connie must have misheard. Gabi explains that Connie said she overheard Ava telling Kristen that she has a terrible feeling that Stefan is planning on telling Gabi that they slept together while she was in prison. Gabi doesn’t see any room for another explanation there.

Melinda tells Ava that Connie is a walking liability and has to go. Melinda says that she’ll break it to Connie, so she needs Ava to break it to Gabi. They talk about being unsure how they will take it. Melinda talks about planning to make sure Connie can never get past security again before she causes any lasting damage…

Connie eats breakfast with her cutout of Li and ignores when her phone rings with a call from Melinda. Connie complains that Melinda did Li so dirty and questions Li not talking back to her. Connie declares that she is Li’s retribution and she will make sure Stefan and Gabi get everything that’s coming to them.

Kristen questions Gabi calling her a liar and warns her to consider the ramifications. Gabi says she’s making a mistake. Gabi asks if Kristen likes her job which she questions. Gabi remarks that Stefan may be Kristen’s brother and he may have helped her get the job, but she’s the one helping her keep it. Kristen questions that so Gabi points out that Kristen has made the relaunch of Gabi Chic the centerpiece of her return to DiMera and explains that her contract states she can take her marbles and go home any time she wants before the launch becomes official. Gabi warns Kristen to stop with the games before she takes her company to her biggest competitor. Gabi asks Kristen if she wants to lose everything because her brother was a cheating idiot. Gabi then demands Kristen tell her what she knows. Kristen then admits that Gabi is right and everything she said is true, confirming that Stefan and Ava slept together.

Abigail asks if there’s something she should know about her and Stefan’s past. Stefan states that he’s just very happy she’s back. Abigail decides to go take a shower and says it was nice catching up as she then exits. Stefan tells Chad that it’s unbelievable and that he’s speechless. Stefan jokes that if Abigail needs any help with coming back from the dead, he can send her to him. Stefan then thanks Chad for not telling her that he raped her. Chad clarifies that he did that for Abigail, not him. Chad says she hasn’t even met the kids, so telling her about the dissociative identity disorder, Ben, and Stefan would be too traumatic for her right now. Stefan says he gets it, but advises Chad to fill her in on some things because being back there might trigger some memories that she’s not quite prepared for.

Abigail enters her and Chad’s old bedroom and finds an old framed photo of Chad and Abigail.

Jack asks Julie if she’s alright. Julie responds that she’s stunned as she was preparing herself for bad news. Jack calls it overwhelming and that’s why Chad is taking everything slowly since Abigail is a virtual stranger to herself. Julie questions why they spent the night at the DiMera Mansion. Jack explains that Abigail thought it was too soon and too much for her to see the kids. Julie understands but says they can’t keep this from Thomas and Charlotte that their mother is alive. Julie calls it a miracle and exclaims that Abigail will have to see everyone who loves her. Jack confirms Jennifer is on her way to Salem. Jennifer then rushes in and announces she’s here and she needs to see her daughter right now. Jack hugs her as Julie says she’s so glad she’s here. Jack knows she wants to see their daughter right away but Abigail wanted time with Chad alone, so he’s not sure they should push this. Jennifer questions if Jack would let anything keep him away if he hadn’t already seen Abigail. Jack then agrees to call Chad and tell him they are on their way.

Stefan tells Chad that he knows he brought Abigail back here in hopes of triggering some happy memories, but a lot of bad stuff happened her too. Chad assures that he hasn’t forgotten that. Stefan says he’s just trying to help. Chad cuts him off and says he’s doing his best as he got his wife back and it’s a miracle but he’s doing his best to manage their needs, his kids needs, and everyone else. Stefan asks if he has any idea how she survived. Chad says no. Stefan asks if maybe Dr. Rolf was involved. Chad says he has a lot more questions than answers right now. Chad then gets a call from Jack.

Abigail looks around the bedroom and sits on the bed. Chad comes in and asks what she’s doing in there. Abigail responds that she doesn’t know and that something drew her in here. Chad informs her that it was their room. Abigail asks why he didn’t take her here last night. Chad reveals it’s also where she was stabbed as he found her lying right there on the bed. Abigail asks if they ever caught the person who did it. Chad confirms they did and reveals that it was Clyde Weston.

Connie tells her cardboard cutout of Li that they can play charades until they are interrupted by Melinda knocking on her door, saying she needs to speak with her immediately.

Gabi tells Kristen that she knew she was going to say it, but she just wanted to hear it straight from her anyway. Gabi guesses part of her had hope but it still hurts. Kristen knows Stefan and Ava hate themselves for what they did and assures it was just one time. Gabi argues that it should’ve been zero and that Stefan confessed to only two kisses for show. Kristen insists that they agonized over telling her the truth because they didn’t want to upset her. Kristen assures it meant nothing. Gabi argues that Kristen wouldn’t buy an excuse like that and questions why she should. Gabi complains that they didn’t lie to protect her but to keep her from wringing their necks. Kristen states that they were just drunk and lonely. Gabi mocks the idea of them naturally falling in to each other’s arms. Kristen shouts that Stefan loves her and asks if Gabi wants to lose him. Kristen knows that Gabi loves him and also has to work with Ava. Ava then arrives at the office, so Gabi calls it a coincidence as they were just talking about her.

Abigail questions Chad about Clyde since he was the man who helped her and watched over her all this time. Chad doesn’t know why Clyde would kill her just to keep her alive. Chad calls Clyde a sick and twisted sociopath. Abigail guesses they weren’t best friends. Chad explains that Abigail once dated Clyde’s son and he’s an oddly protective father, so he hated them both and that night, he came for her. Chad adds that if Abigail knew the circumstances surrounding her death, she wouldn’t believe that she is standing here right now. Abigail questions it happening in this room. Chad calls it not an easy thing to remember or think about. Chad wants her to get her memory back but says she should be thankful that she doesn’t remember this right now. Abigail jokes about having a lot to look forward to. Chad says there will be a lot of surprises but promises that most of them will be really beautiful. Chad wants to keep it from knocking her off her feet if he can. Chad then tells Abigail that Jack called and her mom flew in from Boston this morning. Chad says that Jennifer wants to see her and they are coming over if it’s not too much for her. She declares that she is Abigail DiMera so she guesses it’s time she finds out who she is and where she comes from.

Julie tells Jack and Jennifer that she’s happy to watch over Thomas and Charlotte while they are gone. Jennifer knows Julie misses Abigail too and promises to bring her back to her family home soon. Julie sends all her love as she exits the room. Jack stops Jennifer and says he needs to prepare her as this won’t be simple or easy, explaining that their daughter doesn’t look like Abigail, has no memory, and doesn’t recognize him or Chad. Jennifer says she’s aware but Jack insists that being aware and experiencing it first hand are very different. Jack knows Jennifer is thinking that Abigail will see her mother and her memories will come flowing and he prays that they do, but he wants Jennifer to be ready for this reunion not being everything she wants or needs.

Connie answers the door and asks what Melinda wants. Melinda asks if she can come in. Connie says she has a cold. Melinda insists on talking to her in private. Connie says she prefers to have work conversations at work. Melinda then informs Connie that she won’t be coming back to work. Melinda says she didn’t want to do this in the hallway but declares that Connie is terminated, effective immediately.

Ava asks if everything is okay. Gabi says she was just telling Kristen how amazingly well their work relationship is going as they put everything from the past behind them to focus on the future and the launch could not be going any better. Kristen goes along with it as Gabi says it’s all so exciting and she sees no reason why Gabi Chic won’t be at DiMera for years to come. Gabi offers to take Ava to lunch to celebrate everything ahead for them. Ava says she has something to tell her but Gabi says they can talk about it over lunch. Gabi says she just has one thing to do and asks Ava to wait outside. Gabi adds that she will have Stefan save them the best table at the Bistro. After Ava exits, Kristen asks Gabi what the hell she’s going to do. Gabi tells her to be patient and she’ll find out. Gabi then warns Kristen that if she wants the launch to happen, she will do exactly what she tells her.

Melinda informs her that she checked her references and her entire resumé is a lie which company policy is very strict about, so there was no alternative. Connie argues that everyone lies on their resumé . Melinda demands her laptop and badge but Connie says no way in hell. Melinda argues that those are DiMera property and orders her to return them. Connie complains about Melinda showing up at her door with no notice. Melinda then threatens to get the police involved.

Gabi and Ava go to the Bistro where Gabi points out that Stefan got them champagne at their table, calling him the best husband and saying she’s a lucky woman. Ava agrees as they sit together. Gabi asks what Ava wanted to tell her at the office. Ava informs Gabi that it’s about Connie and she knows this isn’t exactly the best time but Melinda wanted her to tell her. Gabi then stops her as she sees Stefan and calls him over. Gabi then informs Ava that she hopes she doesn’t mind but she invited Stefan to join them. Gabi gets up to greet Stefan and thanks him for taking time out of his busy day to celebrate with them. Stefan asks what they are celebrating. Gabi says it’s her relaunch and declares that her whole life is about to change for the better. Stefan tells Gabi that she deserves it all. Gabi remarks that they all deserve something. Stefan pours champagne as Gabi claims she hopes it’s okay that the three of them are breaking bread together after the whole pretending to date thing. Ava assures it doesn’t have to be awkward. Gabi remarks that she’s so glad they put everything behind them and got everything out in the open. Gabi toasts to Ava for taking a chance on her and reviving Gabi Chic, even if it was out of guilt. Ava asks what she means. Gabi then calls Ava the lying, cheating bitch who slept with her husband.

Jack and Jennifer go to the DiMera Mansion. Jennifer hugs Chad and asks where Abigail is. Chad says she’s upstairs getting dressed, so she’ll be down in a minute.

“Abigail” remains in the bedroom and makes a phone call, saying everything is going according to plan.

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Brady came to in his car. Paulina and Jada were at the crime scene at the square. Jada didn’t get an ID of the driver, but they were going to gather footage from the security cameras. The skid marks proved that the driver hit a pole in the distance. Jada was going to have forensics check the gray paint they found. Brady got out of his car (which is gray) and wondered why he was there. He flashed back to going to a bar. Brady wondered if he drove drunk. Fiona gave Xander coffee as Maggie walked by. Maggie felt bad for having trouble finding the key to the cabin. She thought Sarah could have met with Xander if she found it. Xander told Maggie that the only person responsible was the one who left Sarah to die. Fiona flashed back to hitting Sarah. If Sarah didn’t make it, Xander planned to kill the driver. Kayla arrived and told Xander, Maggie and Fiona about Sarah’s condition. She was stable but had multiple lacerations on her liver and spleen. They were able to fix that. Kayla was concerned about the soft tissue bruising and the inflammation. As long as there weren’t any complications, Kayla thought Sarah would be okay. Brady slumbered into the townhouse and saw Kristen there. Kristen thought he was doing the walk of shame, but he told her that he was working all night. Kristen rolled her eyes at him, and he left the room.

Jada wanted an officer to check all the bartenders in the area because there was a chance the driver was drunk. Kayla called Jada to give her the news about Sarah. Jada rushed to the hospital to question Sarah. Xander checked on Sarah to see if she needed anything. She only needed him. He promised to take her on the honeymoon of her dreams when she got better. Jada told Maggie that she hoped Sarah could identify the driver who hit her. Fiona shifted in her chair. Xander returned so Maggie went to check on Sarah. Jada told Xander that the city security cameras didn’t pick up the accident, but they were going to check with local businesses. He recapped what happened when he found Sarah. Xander realized the driver was there when he found Sarah. He wondered why the person would stay at the scene. Jada thought the person wanted to make sure help arrived. Xander didn’t think it made sense to flee the scene afterwards. Jada planned to talk to Sarah, but Fiona tried to stop her. Her plan didn’t work because Jada wanted to question Sarah. Brady called Fiona to find out what happened the night before. He remembered being at the bar and waking up in the driver’s seat of his car. Brady wanted to know how he got home. Fiona flashed back to putting Brady in the driver’s seat. She couldn’t risk Xander finding out that she was drinking and was the one driving the car. Fiona thought it was better that he takes the fall over her. She told him that she couldn’t talk anymore because Sarah was in an accident. Brady remembered hearing a crunching sound like metal from an accident. Sarah remembered that the car that hit her was gray. The lights were too bright to see the driver. Jada was determined to find the driver. She left Sarah’s room. Kayla walked in the room while Sarah felt a chill. Xander put a cover on Sarah, but she couldn’t feel her legs. He squeezed her legs, but she didn’t feel his hand. Sarah told him that she didn’t feel anything.

He felt guilty about what they did, but she told him not to ruin his relationship by confessing to what they did. Connie told Gabi that she overheard Ava talking to Kristen about having sex with Stefan. Gabi was furious. When she left, Connie said she wanted Gabi to destroy her life like she did Li’s. Hattie showed up at Leo’s place while he was in the middle of writing the script for Body and Soul. Leo didn’t notice that Hattie wasn’t Marlena. While they were watching television, Leo thought Hattie was acting differently from how she normally acts. Kate ranted to Roman about Abe wanting to give Hattie, Leo, and Bonnie a chance at Body and Soul. Roman said they were pretty good. Kate was willing to give Hattie and Leo rope to hang themselves, but she drew the line at Bonnie.

Bonnie auditioned for Body and Soul, but Abe told her she needed more acting experience. Johnny showed up when Bonnie reminded Abe that she successfully pulled off pretending to be Adrienne. He said she had a point and allowed her to audition. Abe agreed to let her audition. Johnny told her to channel her ability to impersonate Adrienne.
