Nikki: Leave me alone!

Jack: Let me in, nikki. You’re not okay. None of this is okay.

Nikki: Pretend you didn’t see me.

Jack: No, I saw you.

Nikki: Well, I don’t want to see you, so get out of here.

Jack: I am not going anywhere. I am your sponsor, remember? A job you asked me to do.

Nikki: I am fine. And you’re fired.

Jack: No, you can fire me once you’re sober. Let me in. Come on. You can’t even stand up here. Don’t make me push the door in.

[ Nikki grunts ]

Nikki: Fine. You asked for it.

Jack: My god. What happened here?

Nikki: Oh, what’s the matter, jack? You were just trying to beat my door down a second ago, and now you’re running scared?

Jack: Give me that. Give me that.

Nikki: Hey– well, gee, thanks. What a gentleman. Make mine a double, will ya?

Jack: This is over.

Nikki: Oh, no, it is not. You are not the boss of me. I am the boss of me. And I want a drink, so either pour or get out of here.

Jack: You have had plenty to drink. I’m not going anywhere until I sober you up and take you to a meeting. We can still make the late night meeting.

Nikki: I’m sick of meetings. All those sad sacks. My name is nikki and I’m an alcoholic. God, how many times have I said that in depressing church basements? And where has it gotten me? Huh? Right here. Well, I’m done. It doesn’t work.

Jack: No, it works if you work it–

Nikki: Oh, shut up. I’m not going to a meeting and I’m not going to get sober.

Jack: Nikki.

Nikki: No. Get away.

Jack: Nikki, stop.

[ Nikki pants ]

Nikki: I can’t do it, jack. Not this time. I give up.

Jack: No. No, you are not giving up. Not on my watch.

Nikki: Hey, turn those lights back down. You’re ruining my mood lighting.

Jack: This room is a mess. You are a mess. Your breath reeks of alcohol. It’s oozing out of your pores. Look at yourself.

Nikki: Wow, that’s your idea of a pep talk? Cuz it stinks. I know what I look like. I know what all this looks like, and it’s what it is. It’s a bender. And you’re not invited.

Jack: Could you please send up two bottles– make it four bottles of water, a pot of coffee and an omelet, some sourdough toast and potatoes. And put a rush on it, please. I’ll pay for it.

Nikki: I sure hope that’s for you because that sounds disgusting.

Jack: Well, hopefully, it’ll sober you up.

Nikki: That’s so not true, jack. I mean, why does everybody think that? It just makes you wide awake, drunk with a sick stomach.

Jack: We’ll see who’s right when you eat. Lauren is looking for you. Victor is looking for you. You’re ignored at all my calls.

Nikki: Uh-huh, uh-huh. I got the messages.

Jack: Nikki, talk to me. How did you end up here like this?

Nikki: Well, same way I always do. I am me.

Jack: No, I don’t understand. The whole nightmare with jordan is over. Wait, maybe you haven’t heard. Cole and victoria found claire. She’s okay.

Nikki: Yeah, I know. I got the texts. I– I’m glad that she’s safe. Let’s do a toast to claire.

Jack: Yeah, thank you. Claire is okay. Harrison is home. Jordan is dead. Now, you can stop drinking.

Nikki: None of that changes anything for me.

Jack: Was this just a celebration? Is that what it is? An excuse to get hammered again?

Nikki: I don’t need an excuse.

Jack: Why didn’t you call me when you first got the urge to pick up a bottle again?

Nikki: There’s no point. I mean, it would have just been a huge waste of time for you, just like now is. Don’t you get it? I’m a lost cause. (Vo) you might be used to living with your albuterol asthma

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Jack: Nikki.

Nikki: Hey.

Jack: Listen to me. You are not a lost cause. That is the booze talking. I’m not going to listen to it and neither should you.

Nikki: Get off of me!

Jack: They’re going to bring up food soon. Why don’t you go splash your face with water?

Nikki: Oh. Yeah, you’d like that. I know what you’re doing. You want me to take a good hard look in the bathroom mirror and recognize that I have hit rock bottom and need to pull myself up and all that, but you don’t understand. It is too late. I’ve been here so many times and here I am again.

Jack: You know what? I don’t want to hear this anymore. I don’t know who you see in the mirror. I see a strong, compassionate woman who has been tortured for months by jordan. It has been harrowing, yes, but I know one thing about you. You always come out on the other side of these battles stronger and better.

Nikki: Well, not this time. My family hates me. I’ve let them all down.

Jack: Where is this coming from? Your family could not be more supportive. They’re probably worried sick about you right now, and where you are. In fact, we should give them a call.

Nikki: What? No! No, don’t you dare, jack! Don’t you do that!

Jack: Stop!

Nikki: I had a dream. Do you hear me? I had a dream and I– I saw the future. My whole family hates me and they’re– they’re sick of me and my crap choices, and I made those even when I was sober, and they finally had enough. I– I ruined everything, so the least I can do is let them move on without me, right?

Jack: Nikki, it’s a dream. It’s a vodka-soaked nightmare. I know it feels real sometimes. It’s not. It is your fears and you can’t put any stock in it.

Nikki: You’re right. There is only one thing I can count on and I can’t let it down. I can’t hurt it. I can’t break its heart and it can’t break mine. Will you stop it?

Jack: It will break your heart every time, nikki. It will. That dream was not telling you the future. That dream was warning you what would happen if you don’t stop drinking. All that you could lose, a family you adore, a family that loves you, adores you. They depend on you more than you know. You are the rock of that family and your dear friends count on you as well.

Nikki: My dear friends are gone, jack. Katherine, neil.

Jack: If katherine and neil were here right now, what would they say? They’ve given you some tough love over the years.

Nikki: They’re not here.

Jack: No, I am, and so is lauren, and so is michael, and so many other people who come to you for guidance.

Nikki: Anybody who would count on me now is an idiot. You can tell them I said so.

Jack: No, I’m not going to do that. No, you want to sober up and tell them yourself, knock yourself out, because you and I both know once the vodka’s out of your system, you’re going to think straight again.

Nikki: No, not going to happen.

Jack: I’m not going to let you give up, nikki.

Nikki: Really? What are you going to do to stop me?

Jack: I think we need to talk about rehab.

Nikki: Oh, no, no. No way.

Jack: I know you thought you could handle it.

Nikki: No way. Uh-uh.

Jack: This has progressed, nikki. You need more than me and meetings. You need the constant care and help of professionals in a facility.

Nikki: It’s not going to work, jack. My god, do you know how many times I’ve been down this– well, yeah, you do. Been around for decades. First was my riding accident, then my intervention. I’ve tried everything.

Jack: And they worked.

Nikki: Until they didn’T.

Jack: Nikki, relapse is part of recovery. You know that. You have to let the program work for you again.

Nikki: It won’t work, jack, because I know all the right words to say, okay? I– I can do anything to make people believe I am working the program, but I won’t be. It’s all an act.

Jack: So you fake it ’til you make it.

Nikki: Will you shut up with your stupid sayings? I am trying to be honest here. You have to want to get sober, but I don’T.

Jack: Why not?

Nikki: I’m sorry I let you down. And don’t take it personally. I let everybody down.

Jack: The only important person here is you. Do not let yourself down, nikki. You can do this. I know it seems bleak now. I know it’s scary. I have been here myself. But it can turn around. You know it can turn around.

Nikki: Yeah, let me guess. This too shall pass?

Jack: Yes, and without it being a miracle from heaven.

Nikki: Oh, stop it. Your damn positivity. You can’t turn on a few lights and say that everything is going to be okay and make it so.

Jack: That is not what I expected.

Nikki: You know what I’m doing right now? I am trying to figure out how to get you out of here so I can open another bottle.

Jack: Too bad. I got nothing but time on my hands. I have nowhere I have to go. I’m going to sit here and listen to you until you agree to go to a meeting.

Nikki: Oh, my god. Your ego. I mean, you are so damn smug. You really think that you can fix me? Why don’t you go to an al-anon meeting? I mean, maybe they can knock it into your thick skull that you can’t change anybody, especially me.

Jack: Stop feeling sorry for yourself. Stop thinking you know the future. We are here. This is now. And you can leave those bottles unopened just for tonight. That’s all you have to think about.

Nikki: Ah, there you are.

Jack: Nikki.

Nikki: Come to mama.

[ Nikki sighs ] Damn it.

Jack: Nikki, I know this is terrifying. I know some part wants to just give up and drown yourself. It’s seductive. But it also fools you into believing this is what you want, that this is what you deserve. The booze is telling you you’re not strong enough. The booze is telling you you failed. You have to find a way to drown out that noise.

Nikki: I don’t want to find it, jack. I– I can’t fight this anymore. It’s 24-7. I mean, will I drink or will I not drink? And then– and then, when I take a drink, then all that goes away. I mean, don’t I deserve to have a little piece and quiet?

[ Bottle shatters ] Type 2 diabetes?

Nikki: Oh, you’re still here.

Jack: Hey, yeah. Room service came, cleaned up a little bit. Why don’t– come have something to drink?

Nikki: Oh, that’ll be vodka.

Jack: I don’t give up that easily. Come on, have a little bite to eat.

Nikki: No, I’m not hungry. Smells nauseating.

Jack: Ah, that’ll go away after the third bite.

Nikki: Oh, are you a doctor now? Or just playing one on tv?

Jack: Just a few forkfuls. Here. Have some coffee.

Nikki: Um, I really don’t feel well. Could you get me a cold towel in the bathroom?

Jack: So you can get another slug? No, that’s not going to happen. No, I know all the tricks. Come on, drink.

Nikki: I don’t have the strength to fight this anymore. I mean, look what I’ve done. Harrison could have been killed. Claire, too.

Jack: Nikki, nikki, that’s over. Jordan is gone.

Nikki: I can’t even celebrate that. The damage is done. How many years does poor harrison have of horrific nightmares? As for claire, who knows what jordan did to her, how that will affect her.

Jack: I don’t have any of those answers. No one does. We’ll only know with time. But I will say ’til I am blue in the face, you are not to blame for jordan’s actions.

Nikki: I should have let her die when I had the chance.

Jack: If you insist on being responsible, why not do what you do best?

Nikki: Hand me that bottle and I will.

Jack: Pulling yourself together to help your family.

Nikki: Yeah, I’m a real mother teresa.

Jack: Think, if you were able to take all of the energy you’re using to convince me you should drink to fighting for something else, for people you love, for organizations you believe in.

Nikki: Oh, god, jack. You think doing charity work will make me sober?

Jack: I think if you stopped wallowing in self-pity for long enough, you would realize that it has helped you in the past to be there for others. Think of how you have helped new hope. Think of all the fundraising you’ve done for ms.

Nikki: Well, I’ll just do another concert. Then, all my troubles will be over.

Jack: That is not you talking. You are a kind, thoughtful person. That is liquor talking.

Nikki: I’m just letting the real me out and it’s a damn relief.

Jack: So, what about the people you’ve helped? People whose lives you have literally changed. Katherine and neil would tell you, you changed theirs. You helped them at very low moments in their lives. Why not do the same thing for your great-grandson? Create happy memories for him to block out all those nightmares. Help claire so she doesn’t backslide. Hug her. Welcome her. I think you’ll be surprised at how helpful all that is.

Nikki: You’re right. I– I should help them. They deserve it. They deserve all of me. They deserve for me to pour this down the sink. And call that rehab.

Jack: Wait, do you mean that?

Nikki: Nice try, jack, but I can’t help anybody.

Jack: Don’t do this, nikki. Don’t do this. Trust yourself. Trust the program. Trust your higher power. That bottle can’t do a damn thing for you. I know you, nikki. You can beat this.

Nikki: That nikki is gone. And you’re going to have to rip this out of my hand to stop me. You can feel it when your dream becomes a pursuit.

Jack: Nikki, I’m not going to wrestle you for that bottle.

Nikki: Well, that’s too proper for you. Don’t want to get down in the mud with me.

Jack: Come on, let– let me take you to a meeting.

Nikki: Oh, that would be pretty. All those people I’ve poured my heart out to looking at me like this.

Jack: No one is turned away. You are always welcome in that room.

Nikki: I am not going anywhere.

Jack: Okay, okay, okay, fine. Let– let me distract you. Talk to me. We can talk about happy memories. Memories we share.

Nikki: You think I haven’t done that? It’s a landmine. I mean, for every happy memory, there’s one ten times worse.

Jack: Okay, okay, then let’s talk about family. You have a great family. A husband who would follow you to the ends of the earth. Children who adore you. Who would be devastated if anything happened to you.

Nikki: Will you stop it? You’re just making things worse. You can’t fix me.

Jack: Here, give me.

Nikki: Hey!

Jack: Give me.

Nikki: Stop it. You said that you wouldn’t wrestle me.

Jack: No, if it takes getting down in the mud with you, I will make it happen.

Nikki: Fine. Pour it down the sink if you want. There’s plenty more where that came from.

Jack: Nikki, please.

Nikki: None of your lectures have worked. I– I’m sorry I picked you as my sponsor.

Jack: Wait, don’t say that.

Nikki: Why? Why? Because it makes you feel bad because you failed? The great jack abbott finally met a problem he couldn’t solve. Well, don’t blame yourself. That– that’s my fault. I mean, I– I let you talk me into it against victor’s wishes. Something else I screwed up. But he was right. You couldn’t help me and now he can say I told you so.

[ Nikki sighs ]

Nikki: That feels good. Don’t look so sad, jack. It’s a buzzkill. You either join the party or get out.

Jack: Fine, I will. Wow, that is smooth. I see you sprung for the triple distilled.

Nikki: Yeah, well, my life might be in the gutter, but I still have my standards.

Jack: Well, then you won’t mind my taking one of these bottles for myself.

Nikki: And do you really think you can stop me from getting drunk by drinking half my supply?

Jack: Just watch me.

Nikki: Put the glass down, jack. You’re making a fool of yourself.

Jack: You know what? We should call room service. See if they can send up some vermouth, some olives. I’ll make us a martini. Well, that’s not the kind of drinking we’re doing now, is it?

Nikki: What is your plan? Because I am not amused.

Jack: Oh, you want to be amused? Come on, let’s see if ol’ smilin’ jack can have fun again.

Nikki: I doubt that.

Jack: Oh, you don’t think so? Okay, I got a better idea. We got it in here somewhere. Oh, there it is.

Nikki: What are you doing? You can’t have me committed, you know. You don’t have the authority.

Jack: Relax, this isn’t about you. Kieran, it’s jack abbott. Yeah, yeah, it’s been a long time. Um, could you make a delivery to the genoa city athletic club, room 428? Yeah, same stuff. Thanks, buddy. You know what? You’re right. I have been wound too tight for too long. It is time to get loose. Struggling with the highs and lows of bipolar 1?

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue…

Nikki: Who was that? Who did you call?

Jack: Patience, my dear. All– it’s fine.

Nikki: Whatever you’re up to, it won’t work.

Jack: I am merely doing what you asked. I’m joining the party.

Nikki: You know damn well it’s not a party.

Jack: Oh boy, do I know that well. But as you so kindly pointed out, I have been a failure as your sponsor. So, to hell with it.

Nikki: Don’t try your reverse psychology on me. I want you out of here right now.

Jack: Or what?

Nikki: Or I will start screaming.

Jack: No, I don’t think you’re going to do that. No, I think you’re curious how far I’m going to take this. No, you can’t drink all that liquor yourself. My god, it puts you in the hospital, and that’s not part of the plan, is it? You said no rehab, and that’s exactly where the hospital would send you. And after an ugly detox, the strongest drink they serve you is apple juice. No, I’m doing you a favor, helping you with this, so you don’t overdo it. So come on! Let’s have a little fun here. Let’s have some toast. Come on. Come on! You want to do the first toast?

Nikki: No.

Jack: Okay, I’ll do it. To jordan’s reign of terror. She fell to her death running from her own damn crimes.

Nikki: For god’s sake, stop this.

Jack: Okay, okay, okay. We’ll lighten it up. It’s family. Talk about… no, your 40th anniversary. Victor would be pissed if we left him out of this. I mean, speaking of that, what about our marriage? You want to drink to our marriage?

Nikki: Jack, no, I–

Jack: No, no, no, stop, stop. I know just the toast. Please, please. To our enduring friendship. A lifetime together. As friends. Through thick and thin, no matter what.

Nikki: I don’t wanna toast. I want you to leave so I can drink in peace.

Jack: But, wait, it’s just getting started.

Nikki: Now you’re mocking me. Trying to get me to see what I look like. Well, don’t bother. I know how pathetic I am.

Jack: Oh, please, stop feeling sorry for yourself. Did it ever occur to you this isn’t all about you? Maybe I’ve been experienced some hell these past few months. Harrison is my grandson. I almost lost him. I spent countless hours with victor newman, of all people, looking for him. And claire. And that’s just the half of it. Ashley is a mess and she won’t ask for help. Kyle and diane are doing some tug-of-war over their jobs at jabot, with me in the middle. And then… and then, there is you. My lifelong friend who I could not help. I’ve been juggling a million balls in the air. Trying to be there for everyone. I can’t do it. It’s not working. And then, I see you. I see you drink and… all the relief you get out of a drink. It kills me. I want some relief.

Nikki: Well, there’s just one thing wrong with your pitch, jack. Alcohol was never your problem.

Jack: No, you mean it was never my solution. No, alcohol will calm me, yes. Now, to take away the pain, I need something stronger.

[ Knocks on door ] Wow! Talk about timing. This is first-class delivery.

Nikki: You better not be trying to pull something.

Jack: This is about me, not you. Thanks. Now, this is what hits the spot. Schwarzkopf

Nikki: Stop this, jack. What you’re doing is very dangerous.

Jack: I know what I have to do now. It’s crystal clear. I have to put myself in your shoes. I haven’t been doing that as a sponsor. No, I’ve been lecturing you with empty platitudes and slogans. And that’s not enough. No, I have to remember what it feels like. And alcohol is not my drug of choice. Now, these. When I hold these in my hand, that gives me comfort. The ease they can give me.

Nikki: What about the harm they can do? You know that too.

Jack: Well, it doesn’t matter. Once the urge is triggered, the pull is too hard, right?

Nikki: Well, make a damn gratitude list.

Jack: I am grateful for you. I am grateful for the bond we have. I would do anything for you.

Nikki: Yeah, but not like this. You– you can’t ruin your life to help me.

Jack: I am your sponsor, nikki. I will do whatever it takes. I would follow you to rock bottom so we could climb out together.

Nikki: Is your ego so big? You– you hate failure so much that you would do something so stupid? Are– are you telling me that– that you still have your dealer’s number after all these years? Why would you do that?

Jack: For the same reason you have a bottle of vodka at the newman ranch. Just to know it’s there. A little test we give ourselves, we addicts. Just to know we have the power over our addiction. Until now.

Nikki: Well, you’re not as weak as I am. You’re strong. You’ve got too many years under your belt. Too much to lose.

Jack: I said that to diane. She didn’t know I had a pain pill problem. I confided in her when I agreed to be your sponsor. And you know what she said? She was worried that helping you might tempt me. Draw me back to the pills. I told her there’s not a chance. And then the stress builds and builds until I’m dealing with a maniac who’s with control of my grandchild. And for the first time in I don’t know how long, I thought just one pill would give me some release. Just– just to ease the tension. It would help everyone else. If they didn’t have to deal with my tension. If they didn’t have to deal with mr. Uptight.

Nikki: Nobody thinks of you that way.

Jack: You do. You said it yourself.

Nikki: That was just because I was mad at you. And I want you out of here.

Jack: I don’t want to go anywhere. I want what you have! I want to just drink and wash it all away. You do that. You’ve survived. I just want it for me. For one night.

Nikki: You know that’s not how it works, jack. That’s crap. That’s the disease talking. It’s the rationalization.

Jack: Wow, who’s handing out the platitudes and advice now?

Nikki: Well, that’s because you’re the one with the family who needs you. I mean, they count on you. You’re the glue that holds them together.

Jack: I said that about you.

Nikki: Yeah, but that was a lie. My family blames me for this whole nightmare with jordan. You saw it on summer’s face when I told her that I had saved jordan’s life. Oh, she tried to deny it, but it was obvious. She blames me. I saw it in her eyes.

Jack: No, no, no. No, no, no. I did not see that.

Nikki: Well, I don’t want to hear it. And I don’t want any company on my trip to rock bottom. Do you understand? This is my world. My nightmare and I don’t want company. You’re not welcome.

Jack: Too bad. You’re stuck with me. Come on! Let’s do this together.

Nikki: You are being incredibly cruel.

Jack: Oh, that is rich. I give up and join you, and I’m the cruel one. You level vitriol and accusations at me all night long. What do you expect me to do? Just turn my back on you?

Nikki: I expect you to get the hell out of here.

Jack: We’re in this together now.

Nikki: You’re trying to make me feel more worried about you than I am about myself.

Jack: No, no. But you don’t have to worry about me. I can handle it, just like you say you can.

Nikki: Okay, that’s it. That’s it. You’re out of here, buddy. Now. Or I am going to start screaming and I’m going to call the police, too. Jack! No! I can’t let you do that.

Jack: How’s it feel? To not be able to stop someone you love from hurting themselves?

Nikki: Jack! ( )

Nikki: You didn’t really take that pill. It was all an act. You were trying to show me what it’s like to not be able to stop you, right?

Jack: There is something liberating about just giving up.

Nikki: Jack, you– you have no reason to give up. I mean, you– you have everything. Your– your life is perfect.

Jack: On the outside, yeah. You don’t know my inner life.

Nikki: It’s because I’ve been too selfish to ask.

Jack: I let you down as a friend, as a sponsor. I know you blame yourself for what happened to claire. I blame myself for your slip.

Nikki: No, please, don’T. Don’t do that. Jack, please, listen. Listen to me. I– I am going to get sober, okay? I’m going to have some coffee and a little something to eat, okay? Come, come join me.

Jack: No, no, this feels too good.

Nikki: Jack, jack, no, please, stop. I’m begging you, please, give me the pills. Give me the pills. You– you can’t mix them with alcohol.

Jack: You’re giving me advice now? I like that.

[ Phone ringing ] What? What? I got it!

Nikki: Oh!

Jack: It’s victor. It’s a missed messages. Missed, mixed– can’t say it.

Nikki: All right. Give me my phone–

Jack: No, what, you don’t want me answering it? Hello, mr. Mustache. It’s me, mr. Uptight. You would not believe where I am. You should come join us for the fun.

Nikki: That is so not funny.

Jack: Can you imagine how he would react if he saw us here? It would be fun to see the look on his face– yeah, okay, yeah. Maybe we should leave him in the dark. He’d just disapprove. Give me that look. Why does he do that with his eyebrow? Hey, hey. Hey, what? Hey, let’s just stay here. Our own private paradise. You and me, okay? Look out for each other.

Nikki: Jack, jack, jack, I– I– I was wrong. You’re right, I– I– I’m sorry. I do need a meeting. I– I need you to take me. You need one, too.

Jack: Dance with me.

Nikki: No, no, no.

Jack: No, come on, dance with me.

Nikki: I don’t feel like dancing, jack.

Jack: Dance with me.

Nikki: Please, jack. Oh, my god. Jack, jack, wake up. Oh, my god, wake up. Jack, wake up, please. Jack!

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

Okay. I will be haven. Oh, you are nothing like that woman. That’s why it’s called acting, ma. Okay. Georgie, james, pay attention. You guys are gonna be the audience. Go easy on me, will ya? What do you say, guys? Are we gonna be an easy crowd? Or are we gonna be a tough crowd? Tough. Oh! Shocker.

[ Laughs ] Oh! Brook lynn, this is so exciting. Your grandmother loves

home & heart. She’s gonna be over the moon about this. Your other grandmother. Oh, good. More interlopers in… monica’s home.

[ Laughing ] Whoa! What’s with her? Tracy’s been in a huff all week having the kids home on spring break. I feel her pain. Mom! You know I love you. Where’s bailey lou? Uh, she’s with my mom.

[ Chuckles ] Thank god. She’s been a real terror lately. Oh, not my girl bailey! Yeah, your girl bailey. Back me up, georgie. Total terror. See? It’s weird to put cream on your face. Like, it doesn’t really even do anything. How would you know, huh? I tried it. Like, the tiniest pea-size amount, right? I don’t know. I just dumped it in my hand and started rubbing it around.

[ Laughs ] Oh! Oh, look, it’s violet! Hi, violet. And chase and gregory, of course. You guys came to watch. We wouldn’t have missed it. Uncle chase said you were practicing to be a tv star. I might do that when I’m older, too. I thought you want to be a doctor like your dad. Tv star is my backup for if that takes too long. Oh! I love it. A woman with a plan. Come here and join our tough crowd. Whoo! Lights, camera, action. Oh!

[ Laughter ] Where, for the love of god, is the nanny? There are children in every corner of this house. Melanie’s mother had a dental emergency. Oh, great. Well, now for my second and final complaint. I highly doubt that. I cannot believe that you took my intention to hire a cook as an opportunity to offer the job to sasha. We don’t know if she can boil a hot dog. She has worked in restaurants, tracy. Of the fast-food variety. Uh, no. Real restaurants. Well, so has almost everybody under the age of 30 without a trust fund. So what?

[ Telephone rings ] Seventh floor. No. Dr. Soriano, I believe you can find nurse baldwin down in pediatric icu. Of course, I’ll let her know if I do. Everybody’s looking for elizabeth. I know. I would hate to be her. They asked me to work a double, but I can’T. You? I just worked a 12 overnight. I-I have kids to get home to. So does elizabeth. Maybe I am an awful person. We can’t rule it out.

[ Telephone rings ] Seventh floor.

[ Elevator bell dings ] I’m sorry, dr. Soriano. If she’s not there, I don’t know. Try…orthopedics?

[ Sighing ] Oh, god. Problem? Guess not. Uh, michael said wiley was throwing up last night, so I thought maybe I should pick up something for him on the way home, but no answer. So I guess melanie — the nanny — must be out with both kids and he’s fine.

[ Laughs ] Um, don’t shoot the messenger, but I have been deputized to do a multi-floor search for a nurse who is willing to take an additional shift, since regina’s out sick. I’m sorry. I-I’ve just — I’ve been here all night. I just can’T. I have a 1-year-old who, after a 12-hour shift, I don’t think even remembers me. I hear you. I couldn’t have worked the hours that you do when my girls were little, which begs the question… what? You’re not asking me why I have a job? Oh, no! Sorry. No, having work that fulfills you, work that makes a difference — these things matter.

[ Telephone rings ] Sorry. Seven floor. Elizabeth, I am so sorry. I just — of course I would. I would be happy to pick aiden up. No trouble at all. Elizabeth is still looking for a replacement, but in the meantime, I’m gonna pick up aiden for her, so I guess I feel a little less guilty.

[ Chuckles ] Well, I better continue my search. With a little bit of luck, elizabeth will be out of here while the sun is still shining. There. See? All right, good job, wiley. Hey. What’s up? With melanie helping out with her mom, I thought it’d be fun to hang out with the kids, but apparently I’m not as fascinating as comet. Few people are, michael. Few people are. Hey. Is lunch ready? The new cook said 45 minutes. I’m not optimistic. Okay. Well, uh, you should be optimistic because you know, the new, uh, cook is that old friend of mine, and I bet she does a great job. I’m with you, michael. I think the new cook is a real find. Melanie? I’m home. Hmm. It doesn’t sound like anyone’s here. No, it doesn’T. Maybe she took the kids up to the main house for lunch. Do you want to join them, or I can make a sandwich for you to eat here if you want. I’ll go up to the house. I know you worked the overnight shift. You must be tired. Aw. Your mom did, too. I hope it doesn’t take too long to find that replacement nurse. You must be desperate to go home and get into bed. Thanks for picking me up at the library. Of course. I’ll text jake to pick me up from his soccer practice. How do sports get away with holding practice when there’s no school? It’s his travel league, so they’re basically allowed to do whatever they want. Let me know if you need anything? I will. I always found it easier to hold the products like this, but maybe that’s just me. No, it fe– it feels better. Okay, maybe you turn the label around so it’s facing directly towards the camera. Hey, you know what, sasha? Why don’t you show brook lynn how to cheat to an imaginary camera, like, over there somewhere? I have the non-imaginary camera right here.

[ Chuckles ] What are you doing here? Because I was so rudely not invited? Well, you know, I just thought that maybe a screen test for our new proposed spokesmodel was in order. Why? Why? Because you seem to think that anybody and everybody can sort of do the duties that I did so well. That remains to be seen.

[ Doorbell rings ] You must be isaac. Come on in.

[ Sighs ] Here’s my pride and joy.

You want to describe the texture — what it smells like, how it feels on your skin. With glowing adjectives, of course. Of course. Silky, dewy, fresh. Then you apply just the dab on your cheek, and you rub it in… …just like this. Lucy: Ah. Flawless. Okay, let’s shoot. Brook lynn, you’re up. Okay, ready? Uh, quiet on the set. Action! Lois: Okay. Honey, hold it a little closer to your face. That way the viewers can see the label. Brook lynn: Like this? Exactly. I was gonna say that. Yes. Yes. Like this? Um, not that close. Maybe…here should be good. I think I’m gonna go sit out in the sun for a while, get some vitamin D. Can I come? All: No! Good luck, kiddo.

[ Laughter ] Brother! Okay. Take two action! Sasha is a great cook. I just never thought that she’d be doing it for a living. Yeah, I think the, uh, offer of free room and board was too tempting. Also, the flexibility, I don’t think mama q’s gonna fully surrender her kitchen. No. No, no. I mean, it’s probably mostly just breakfast and lunches while olivia’s at work. Plus, sasha has weekends off, which is great. And maybe I can make a music video someday. I would love that. And ride comet while I’m singing! Whoa, whoa, whoa. You’re gonna have to talk to his agent first. And who’s his agent? You’re looking at him. Is it okay for the boys to play in the hay, even though the horses eat it? Uh, it better be ’cause they do it all the time. Can I go play with them? Look at him. Uh, yeah. Have at it. I love the smell of hay! Georgie, keep an eye on the littles, will you? And holler if you need any help. You got it. So, uh, what’s this about a music video? Violet was watching brook lynn practice her spokesmodeling up at the house, and they were videotaping her, and now violet’s got a little bee in her bonnet. Wait, I thought blaze was the new face of deception. She is, but it’s in her contract that she won’t do any of the promotional stuff. Oh, so that’s on brook lynn now? And I don’t think she’s too happy about it. Tracy, you are not the only decision maker in this household. And I am not the only person in this household who was sick to death of leftovers and yuri’s borscht. Hello. That’s why I hired someone. I want a real cook. No, you want someone who’s not gonna let anyone into the kitchen, and I’m not gonna allow that again. That’s the point. They have their domain, and we have ours. Ah, tracy. I love cooking for my family, when I have the time to do it. That’s what makes sasha the perfect solution to this problem. Hello, aiden. Hi. Ms. Quartermaine. Hello, another family’s child. Be nice. Something smells good. Yes. It does smell good, doesn’t it, tracy? Where’d you come from? My mom got stuck at work, so mrs. Corinthos picked me up and dropped me off. Well, lunch is gonna be served shortly, so I certainly hope you’ll stick around and eat with us. I’d like that. Thanks. Of course you would. Just want to peek in the oven. Sasha. When you finish lunch, I have a request. Okay. Would you go get a cookbook, please? Bring it here to me. Open it to any page and point. Mamma mia! You gotta be kidding me. Aha!

Tournedos rossini. Sounds delightful. That’s what I want for dinner.

Tournedos rossini? One of my favorites. Do we have pté? And if we do, will the kids eat it? I don’t know. Tracy, what do you think? The kids want pté? I think you should pick another recipe.

Pot-au-feu. Perfect second choice.

Pot-au-feu it is. Dinner at 7:00? Oh. Works for me. Sasha, I am so sorry. I take it tracy is not happy with me as the new cook? What was your first clue? Well, I’ll just have to prove her wrong, won’t I? Oh, bless you. Honey, I’m gonna give you all the space you need. If you need anything at all, you just call me for backup. Okay. Bye. Thank you. Can I ask you a question? Ask away. I love to bake, but I’ve never seen anything like what you have in the oven. Oh, well, it’s a great way to use any leftovers you have in the fridge. You want to help me chop up some vegetables, and I’ll tell you all about it? Sure. Come on.

[ Door opens ] Hey. Sorry. Didn’t mean to wake you. No, it’s okay. Where’s melanie? Oh, uh, her mom had a little emergency. Is she okay? Uh, yeah, yeah. It was just a dental thing. So I came home to be with the kids, and wiley is at the stables with cody. Oh, the horses were more entertaining than dad, huh? Yeah, pretty much.

[ Chuckles ] I, uh — I sent aiden up to the main house for lunch. Aiden webber? Yeah. Elizabeth got stuck at the hospital, asked if I could bring him here and make sure he got fed. Well, that’s nice of you to help out. All right. It’s time for you to go to bed. Um, you stay here. Get some rest. And I’ll be right back. Okay. Here we go. You ready? I hear deception is debuting a new product. That’s right, haven. What’s it called? Disruptor nourishing moisturizer. Catchy name. I know, right? Can you tell us about it? Oh, yes! Our newest product is a face cream. It does wonders for the skin. We like the sound of that. Please go on. Okay, yes, well, um, the texture is silky smooth, and you just take a little bit on — oh, shoot. Cut! I’m sorry! No, no, no, honey, it’s okay! You’re still getting the hang of it.

[ Clapping ] I want 100 jars and the beautiful face-cream model. Uh, sorry, you are not our target audience. All right, come on. Let’s look at the dailies. Okay. Come on, sweetie. Come on, come on. Let’s see. Let’s see. Play it on this thing. Here we go. Play. Brook lynn: …Silky smooth, and you just take a little bit on — oh, shoot. Okay. Well, that’s what rehearsals are for. Sasha wasn’t perfect the first time, either. Uh, she was a lot better than that. Okay! You know what, brook lynn, you just need to relax. Come on, come on, come on. Just a little bit. And you know what? We’re gonna just try it again. -Okay. -Okay? Excuse me. Why don’t we give the professionals a chance? And I’m guessing you’re the professional? Watch and learn.

[ Sighs ] How was your shift? Oh, long, exhausting, but good. All right. Do you want to head up to bed? Don’t tempt me. No, go ahead. You deserve a nap. You know, I, uh… I sleep better when you’re beside me.

I’m too young to die. What do you desperados want? All your money. Ah! [ Laughs ] You picked the wrong cowboy. We’ll take your horses then. But they already belong to your family. Actually, i am the sheriff, and you’re all under arrest. Ah! Including you. And now you have to marry georgie. That’s a weird punishment. -[ Laughs ] -Aah!

[ Grunting ] Ah. Thank you. What did I do? You arrived just in the nick of time. Saved me from getting hitched. Well, you’re welcome. How’s it going up at the manse? Pretty sure that my first day as to cook will also be my last. Tracy? She’s not a fan.

[ Laughs ] And it’s a real bummer because I really liked my new room. Um, do you want me to talk to her? I mean, believe it or not, I think tracy actually likes me. It’s okay. You know what? There was something too good about it to be true from the start. Especially the part where I got to be near you every day. Olivia’s mad at me. What happened? We need a cook. Quartermaines have always had a cook. Not since I’ve known you. No, because since you’ve known me, olivia has lived here, and she insisted that she could take it on. But you cannot run a hotel, raise a child with special needs, and cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a house full of people. It’s too much. Agreed. So, instead of hiring a professional cook, olivia offered the job to her friend. Do I know this friend? You certainly do. Sasha corbin. And I get it. Olivia wants somebody that she can kick out of the kitchen without feeling uncomfortable. When she wants to cook, you mean? Mm-hmm. And I certainly do understand that, but we don’t know if sasha has the skills for this, and hiring someone to do a job that they can’t do helps no one. Not us and not sasha. Am I being awful? You’re being practical. Some homes, the kitchen is a place to gather. Not this one. Exactly. We have the nook for that. How come you get that and olivia doesn’t? Probably because I have no skin in the game. But this is olivia’s home, too. She just wants to be comfortable in it. Am I being too rigid? You’re being you. So, that’s rigid, angry, and unyielding.

[ Chuckles ] Where does that come from, you think? Lucy: Haven. [ Chuckles ] Haven, have I told you that I am the brainchild of deception? Haven? Oh, yes. About 17 billion times.

[ Laughs ] Right, right, because it’s so true. And you all — all are very, very welcome. Now, today we have the disruptor nourishing moisturizer, brand-new product and, by the way, my idea. Well, I mean, it wasn’t my idea, the formula, but the way it benefits your skin — totally my idea. Let me — let me show you.

[ Chuckles ] Okay. Wait. There. Mm. It is so absorbing. It absorbs right straight into your skin. It’s not absorbing at all. Working that cream like it’s furniture polish.

[ Lucy speaks indistinctly ] Yikes. She’s not very good at this, is she? I don’t think I’m one to talk. What? You were perfect. Like a deer in headlights. Look, I love maxie and deception, but I can’t help but feel like this is a wrong turn for me. You did seem

kind of uncomfortable. Kind of? And nobody watching is gonna believe that you need a face cream. I love you. Aha! See? There.

[ Clears throat ] All absorbed. Our disruptor nourishing moisturizer cream is so good. It feels so wonderful on my skin, ladies and gentlemen. My baby, my creation. Get yours today! Oh, well, that was, um… fantastic. I know. Thank you. Um, you know what? Why don’t we just review it all, take a peek, and then we can all just kind of vote? Okay. Mm-hmm. Yeah. I think I’m mad at time. And all the years that I wasted being too afraid to… leave my safety net. The only risk I ever took in my life was on luke, and I only had him for a few years before I lost him. Happiness is great as long as you’ve got it. Are you unhappy now? No. I’m disappointed. The advantages that I’ve been given in life are obscene. As are… …how little I’ve done with them.

Okay, this is gonna sound crazy. When has that ever stopped you? Why don’t you move in with me? I’ve got a nice, comfortable room upstairs if you can stand the spiral staircase to get to it. I’m not wrong in that we have kissed exactly once, yes? No, that — that’s right. Yes. So, I feel like cohabitation isn’t really the natural next step. Well, we wouldn’t be sharing a bed or anything. Unless you wanted to, in which case, we totally could be.

[ Laughs ] And where would you sleep? Uh, well, you know, we’ve got an extra cot in the tack room for when a mare is foaling. I could just bring it upstairs.

[ Alarm beeping ] That’s lunch. I need to take it out of the oven. There’s plenty if you’re interested. I am definitely interested. Georgie! Round up the kids for lunch! Let’s go! Georgie! Lucy:

Get yours today. -Huh. -Huh. Well, you know, nobody looks, uh, good in that kind of light. You know what? I think brook lynn just needs one more run-through. That’s all. Come on, sweetie. Come here. Come here. Come stand. All right. Look, I’m gonna show you, okay? So, you want to pick up and hold the product like this. Okay? Right? Not like this like it’s a secret weapon, but like it’s — it’s the greatest secret in life, and you are gonna share that secret with the world. Or with the viewers of home & heart, at least, okay? And then you’re gonna open it very gently. Maybe smell. Mmm! Right? And then you’re gonna take just a tiny little bit. Right? What are you doing? Why? Why? Why not? Okay. And then, you’re going to see that it’s like a little pearl.

[ Gasps ] Right? Which is fitting because this cream is the ultimate in luxury. You’re gonna put it on. Mm! Silky, hydrating. Oh, it’s like I’ve died and gone to heaven, right? Right? Mm. Oh, good. I was just coming to find you. How’s it looking? Light brown on top and ready to come out, I think. Perfect. I’m happy to help you serve it if you want. Yeah? You’re a lifesaver, aiden webber. Hey. Are you headed back to the office? Uh, nah, that ship as sailed, I think. What about you? When’s your next shift? I’ve been thinking about that, about my job at gh in general. Yeah, I saw you were, uh, looking at that new tomorrow institute pamphlet. Oh, you did, did you? Yeah, I’m observant like that. So…talk to me. Representing the nonprofit, it would essentially be a part-time volunteer position. Okay. Meaning I’d no longer be getting paid. Well, you know, it’s not like we need the money. I know, but a lot of people do. Like elizabeth, for example. She’s raising three boys on her own, and she doesn’t have the luxury of turning down a double shift like I do. Yeah, I hope jason being back can ease her financial burden a little bit. I hope so, too. But it’s got me thinking. Nursing is wonderful, important work, and I’ve — I’ve loved doing it. I know you have. But I am starting to wonder if I’ve been doing it for the wrong reasons.

independence is important to me. I get that. And I’m not sure I even realized it at the time, but it was a huge factor in my becoming a nurse. The idea of solely relying on you for money — it made me uncomfortable. I liked knowing that if you left tomorrow… never happening. …I could stand on my own two feet. And I still relate to all that. I just… taking this position would allow me to still do something meaningful that makes me proud, while being able to be there for my kids in a way I can’t now. I’d get to see all of wiley’s t-ball games and take amelia to the swings myself, not hear about it later from melanie. Well, just to be clear, you know, melanie — she’s a great nanny, and, uh, the kids are happy and thriving. I know. I know they are, but I’m missing stuff, michael. And I don’t have to. And that makes me so incredibly lucky. I mean, what drew is proposing — an opportunity for me to help recruit bone-marrow donors and stem-cell donors who, in turn, could help cure cancers like I had, and also spend significantly more time with my kids? I mean, what a gift, for them and for me. Well, it sounds like you made up your mind. You don’t seem surprised.

[ Chuckles ] I had a feeling this is how it would shake out. I just, I wanted you to get there yourself. And here I am. Here you are. Here we are. So you’re on board if I do this? I’m on board with anything that makes you happy. Anything? Anything. Why? Do you, uh… did you have something specific in mind? As a matter of fact, I do. If I’m hearing you right, you feel you’ve been… showered with temporal gifts in life — money, property, a close-knit if not always harmonious family. Ha! Harmonious. But in your opinion, you don’t have much to show for it. Well done. Achievement is overrated. I don’t think we were put on this earth to win trophies or become famous or make scientific discoveries. Don’t get me wrong, power to you if you do, but the way I see it, I… I think our job is to love the lives we’ve been given and the people we’ve been set down amongst and be grateful for all of it. I don’t think I’ve been very successful by that measure, either. There’s still time. And not all of us can say that. -Come on, guys, let’s go! -Hi, grandpa! Hey. Excuse us. Wiley: It’s time for lunch! Yes! Be brave, james. You can do it. I, for one, think it looks delicious. Thank you. You’re very welcome. Wait, ma, can you just go through it one more time? Mm-hmm. How did you hold the product so that it was showing towards the camera? Oh, okay. You hold it just like this. And how did you get just the right amount of cream? Oh, okay. Well, I’ll show you. You’ve gotta open it up gently and take just a little bit. You know, a little bit goes a long way. This cream — it’s a miracle, you know? I mean, it is a complete game changer. That’s the plan. And then? I’m sorry. Oh, sweetie. It’s okay. You’re just learning. The application part — can you show me that part again? Okay, yeah, you — oh, wait, smell this first. Huh? Oh, that smells like the summer. I mean, it takes me right back to the beach. And the texture of it — come on. I happen to be a woman of a certain age, and this — this makes me feel like I am brand-new. Lucy: Stop! Just stop right there. Stop, stop, and stop.

It is time to face facts. Brook lynn simply cannot be the deception spokesmodel. Whoa, whoa, whoa! I think you’re being a little hasty here, because brook lynn just needs a little bit more time. Time’s not really the problem. Lucy’s right, ma. Besides… we already have the perfect deception spokesmodel. Oh, if you say yourself again, lucy, I swear I’m gonna scream. Lois! It’s you. Huh? You. You’re it. Have you lost your ever-loving mind? No, because you just presented our product effortlessly. And, in fact, it was almost poetic. It’s true. I have the footage to prove it. And you love our products, lois. It has to be you.

[ Scoffs ]

Really? Really. And just imagine everyone in the old neighborhood seeing you on tv. Oh! The girls will get such a kick out of it, won’t they? Okay, come on. Come on. Are you in? Why, thank you. What service. Of course.

[ Chuckles ] This actually smells very good. Have you seen my dad? I have not. He must have gone back to our house. W to help me bring him some lunch? I bet I can beat you there. Oh, please. I’m much faster than both of you. Right, grandpa? She is pretty fast.

[ Chuckles ] Plate. Fork. On your mark, get set… go! This is really delicious. Gteau salé. You’ve had it before? I have. Luke and I were living abroad, and we used to take little weekend trips to… get a change of scene. Isn’t europe amazing that way? A train ride, you’re in another country. Our favorite place to stay was this bed and breakfast in bergerac in the dordogne. And every morning, the patronne would bring a gteau salé out for us when we woke up. Never the same ingredients twice, just whatever they had on hand. And it was always… perfect and light. Just like this. I would’ve liked to have met luke.

[ Laughs ] You would have hated him. I don’t think so. Maybe not. What else goes in a pot-au-feu? Come on, sasha, think. Why don’t you just look it up on your phone? Because that would be

cheating. Well, this is ridiculously good. Yeah? Yeah. Tracy would be crazy to pass on you.

[ Sighs ] From your lips. So, uh, speaking of lips…

[ Laughs ] Wow! What a segue. Yeah, I-I’m good at ’em. Um, no, uh… about before? I don’t — I don’t want you to think that I was trying to get you alone in my bedroom. Not that I’d be opposed, but… noted. The whole point is I’m team sasha. You won’t be without a place to crash as long as I’m around. Well, my dear, lunch was superb. I am delighted to welcome you to the household. Thank you. And don’t worry. I’m still working on dinner. You can stop. Actually, you can make whatever you want for dinner. No more tests. Do we understand each other? We do. And you — aren’t you supposed to be minding the rugrats? They’re not outside on the patio? No, they went off to look for michael. Ah! All right, on it.

[ Glass shatters ] It wasn’t my fault. Wiley pushed me. I did not! Hey, it doesn’t matter how it happened. Wiley, do you know where a broom is so we can clean this up? Here it is. What kind of party is this? And why wasn’t I invited? I brought my dad some lunch, but I can’t find him. Maybe they’re upstairs in bed. Let’s go look. Uh, I-I-I don’t think so. No. No. You all made a fine mess in the stables. You’re gonna help me clean up that bale of hay. -Fun! -Yeah! -Yay! All right, all of you, all of you, let’s go. Thank you. Yes, of course. It wasn’t supposed to be fun.

[ Door closes ] Are they gone? Gone. Remind me to give cody a raise.

[ Chuckles ] I will. I love you, willow. And I love our life. I love it, too. And you. So much it hurts sometimes.

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

Eric gets Jude to sleep while Sloan complains that at least somebody is getting some sleep. Sloan brings up Eric not trusting her and says she’s showing him everything related to her finances and promises to never give Leo another dime. Eric argues that this doesn’t solve the issue and he wants Sloan to tell him the truth.

Leo goes to the Spectator office, bringing in a gift basket to Chad that was delivered from Paulina. Leo tells Chad that he wanted to talk to him about the reporter position. Chad reminds Leo that he said he wasn’t interested. Leo informs him that he thought about it and changed his mind and now he’s ready to write about anything. Chad appreciates his enthusiasm but tells Leo that he’s sorry because he offered the position to Nicole and she accepted it.

EJ and Nicole sit together in the living room of the DiMera Mansion after breakfast. EJ talks about wanting Nicole to have a full meal before her first day at work. Nicole questions what changed his tune about her going to work. EJ says he thought about it and saw the spark in her eye, so he decided that what makes her happy makes him happy as they hug.

Paulina and Johnny get Chanel set up in a hospital room. Kayla enters the room to ask Chanel what’s going on. Chanel informs her that she just feels fatigue. Paulina worries that it’s radiation poisoning.

Leo questions Chad hiring Nicole then says he guesses that makes sense. Chad thinks Nicole will bring a fresh perspective to the paper. Chad adds that if something else comes up, Leo will be the first he asks. Leo then asks Chad for a raise. Chad agrees to talk about it during his review. Leo brings up Dimitri being released from prison and says any extra money would help him provide a better life for Dimitri. Leo talks about Dimitri giving up a lot for him so he deserves it. Chad suggests Dimitri get a job. Leo is sure he’ll try. Leo informs Chad that he will be working from home if he needs him. Leo stuffs his bag with goodies from Paulina’s gift basket to prepare for Dimitri as he exits.

Kayla tells Paulina that Chanel’s symptoms could be any number of illnesses. Paulina wants to rule out radiation poisoning. Kayla says they will do her blood work and then they will have a better idea of what they are dealing with. Kayla asks Johnny and Paulina to step out so she can examine Chanel. Johnny kisses Chanel goodbye and says he’ll see her soon as he exits with Paulina.

EJ finishes a work call, saying he’ll be in later today as soon as he can. EJ then gets another call and says he wants the sales meeting to happen today. EJ says he’ll be in shortly and hangs up. EJ tells Nicole that he’s sorry about that. Nicole understands it comes with the territory as she married a very important man. EJ calls her beautiful and charming as they kiss. EJ says he loves being able to share every part of him with her because he loves her. Nicole jokes that she just might be falling for him too. EJ declares that by each other’s side, there is nothing they can’t do.

Sloan tells Eric that she told him the truth last night. Eric argues that it made zero sense and questions why she would be giving Leo money when she knew their family was struggling financially. Sloan argues that she didn’t think it was that bad and says she’s been working and making money, so she just wanted to help a friend and be generous. Eric questions Sloan trying to make herself feel like a better person. Sloan asks if Eric doesn’t approve of that. Eric complains that this is not what it’s about. Sloan brings up that Nicole once told her that she felt she was never good enough for him. Sloan remarks that it seems like maybe she’s not either and maybe no one is. Sloan declares that she needs space and time alone as she then storms out of the apartment.

Johnny brings Paulina some tea at the hospital. Johnny knows Paulina is upset but encourages her not to be too hard on herself. Paulina worries that she put her daughter in danger. Johnny says they will just wait and see what Kayla has to say. Paulina then gets a call from Chad. Chad hoped to follow up with her for a quote on a story he’s working on. Chad asks if now is a good time but Paulina says it couldn’t be worse and tells Chad to call her assistant as she then hangs up. Paulina tells Johnny that she knows she asked him to put in a good word for her with Chad on his story, but she can’t ask that of him now because if Chanel has radiation poisoning because of her, then she deserves whatever scathing criticism she gets for it.

Eric plays with Jude at home as he gets a call from Chad. Chad hoped Eric could come by the office to talk about him getting some work with the paper. Chad asks what his schedule looks like. Eric says he can be there in 20 minutes. Chad says he’s looking forward to it. Eric thanks him and they hang up. Eric wonders what to do now that Sloan is gone. Eric decides that he will take Jude with him on his first big interview.

EJ goes to work in his office at DiMera Enterprises. His assistant Rita comes in and EJ jokes with her about bringing him coffee. They go over various work plans. She comments on all DiMera CEOs being the same. EJ says he needs her to stop by his other office. She asks how Paulina feels about EJ taking on a second job. EJ says he hasn’t told her yet because she has a lot going on lately. EJ thinks it’s none of Paulina’s concern if everything is going well. EJ asks Rita to stop by his office and pick up the two case folders from his desk. Rita jokes about how much EJ pays her as she then exits.

Leo returns to his room at the Salem Inn and talks about Dimitri getting out in three days. Sloan shows up at his door. Leo tells him that it’s not a good time unless she came to plan a welcome home party for Dimitri. Sloan says she came to make sure they keep quiet about Jude. Leo argues that he and Dimitri owe her nothing since she cut him off. Sloan talks about Eric being crazy about his son and his heart would break in a million pieces if Jude was taken away from him. Sloan asks Leo to do it for Jude because he needs a family.

Nicole goes to the Spectator office and tells Chad that she’s reporting for duty. Chad welcomes her to the team. Nicole says she’s nervous and excited. Chad encourages that she will do amazing with her experience. Nicole asks what he’s working on. Chad says he’s working on the piece about Paulina’s radioactive misadventures. Chad thanks her for the tip and thinks there’s a real potential story there about Paulina’s future in regards to her mayoral campaign. Chad states that good or bad, the public need to know. Nicole agrees since Paulina is an elected official. Chad admits it did make him wonder how Nicole came across the information. Nicole thinks back to EJ suggesting an expose on Paulina.

Rita returns to EJ with his coffee. EJ thanks her but complains that he was sure the Spectator’s expose on Paulina would be published by now. Rita asks why he would expect that while she’s dealing with health issues. EJ mentions hearing from his sources. Rita notes that an expose suggests some kind of dirty little secret and questions what skin EJ has in the game. EJ responds that the dynamic between he and Paulina has been less than ideal, so if she would happen to land in the mud, it would be unfortunate but he would continue to carry on his duties. Rita guesses that EJ doesn’t like Paulina. EJ complains that Paulina micromanages and is insufferable. Rita suggests he kill them with kindness.

Paulina tells Johnny to go ahead and say it’s all her fault. Paulina encourages Johnny to yell at her and release his pent up frustration. Johnny says yelling at her is the last thing he wants to do. Johnny tells Paulina that he cares about her and understands she was just doing what she thought was right in coming to rescue Chanel. Kayla comes out and informs them that Chanel’s vitals are really good, so they are just going to wait for her blood work results. Kayla allows Johnny to return to Chanel’s room. Paulina then questions Kayla as to why she is okay and Chanel is sick when she is the one who was radioactive. Kayla wishes she had the answers but she doesn’t and tells her to just be patient. Paulina questions how she can be patient when her daughter is sick because of her. Paulina says she thought she was trying to save Chanel, but instead she put her life in jeopardy. Paulina breaks down crying, questioning how she can be patient as Kayla hugs her.

Leo remarks that Sloan is really going all out to pull on the heart strings. Sloan argues that EJ and Nicole would be terrible parents to Jude. Sloan remarks that Holly and EJ’s kids are all screwed up, so Jude’s best chance is with her and Eric. Leo admits that the baptism gave him all the feels, but points out that Eric is onto her and is suspicious as hell. Leo asks how long until it all blows up in her face. Sloan argues that Leo gains nothing by telling anyone anything and he’d just be opening up a whole new can of misery. Sloan suggests the best thing Leo could do when Dimitri gets out of prison is to leave town and start a new life with Salem in the rear view.

Johnny returns to Chanel’s hospital room. Chanel says she’s going crazy having to wait like this and worries about the damage that radiation can cause to the body. Chanel admits that she’s really freaked out. Johnny tells Chanel that he loves her and promises they are going to have the best life together as he hugs her.

EJ tells Rita that she might be onto something in that extending an olive branch to Paulina can only help their relationship move in a productive direction. Rita asks what they know about Paulina. EJ talks her up and suggests reaching out to her now and they will all be stronger because of it.

Nicole jokes with Chad about never giving up her sources but Chad says that doesn’t apply to her editor. Nicole claims it’s just something she heard in passing and it concerned her. Nicole adds that she also lives with Johnny, who was a witness to all of it. Chad tells Nicole not to hesitate to reach out if she has anything else. Nicole says she hopes the piece will be fair since Abe is one of her closest friends. Chad feels the same and assures that this platform is for awareness and not to be destructive or vindictive. Chad gives her his word that the article won’t be a hit piece. Chad tells Nicole that he will get her set up in the system so she can start telling her stories.

Leo tells Sloan that leaving town is an interesting idea and admits he hadn’t thought much of what he and Dimitri will do. Sloan encourages him and asks what’s tying him down to Salem. Leo admits it is tempting and he likes the idea of living in LA or New York. Sloan gets a text and says she has to go. Sloan wishes Leo and Dimitri all the happiness in the world in LA or New York. Sloan then exits. Leo says to himself that he will first need some money to achieve that happiness and tries to come up with ideas of how to make money. Leo then brings up EJ’s name and wonders what the information he has would be worth to him.

Eric arrives at the Spectator with Jude and says he normally wouldn’t bring his son to a job interview but it was last minute. Chad says it’s no problem and calls Jude their honorary guest. Eric notes that Jude fell asleep on the way, so they can get started now. Chad tells Eric that he took a look at his portfolio and was very impressed, so they would love to have him do some work at the paper. Chad notes that it would be freelance to start for the first few assignments which Eric agrees to. Chad hands Eric the employee handbook to read over and says he will go talk to HR to get his paperwork started. Chad then welcomes Eric to the team and exits. Eric calls it good news for their family. Nicole then returns and asks what Eric is doing there.

Leo goes over to himself the pros and cons of spilling the beans to EJ. Leo notes that he and Dimitri could be set for life but asks if it’s worth it to tangle with a DiMera. Leo adds that taking Jude from Eric would be so hurtful. Leo wishes he could remove his conscience. Leo decides he will go for a walk to clear his head and exits his room.

Paulina joins Johnny in Chanel’s hospital room and tells them that she texted Abe, who said he is praying for Chanel. Kayla returns with Chanel’s test results. Paulina gets a call from EJ, who asks if they can meet up to discuss their current, unfortunate situation to try and clear the air. Paulina says not now and she will have to get back to him, so she hangs up. Paulina tells Kayla to continue. Kayla reveals that Chanel’s tests came back normal with one exception. Kayla then announces that Chanel is pregnant!

Sloan walks through the town square and calls Melinda, telling her that she finally got through to Leo. Sloan notes that Dimitri should be returning very soon and Leo is just happy to have him back and wants to celebrate with a fresh start, so she thinks they’d be open to leaving Salem and never coming back. Sloan thinks it’s going to be okay.

Leo returns to his room with his mail and finds a letter from Dimitri. Leo excitedly opens the letter and is shocked to read that Dimitri says he is off on a new adventure with someone new that he met during his time on the inside. Dimitri writes that he cared deeply about Leo but he realizes now they weren’t right for each other while the man he met is perfect for him. Dimitri hopes Leo can someday be happy for him and find this kind of love. Leo cries as he finishes reading Dimitri’s letter.

Nicole questions Eric getting a job at the Spectator too which he confirms. Nicole calls it kind of spooky as it’s her first day as the Spectator’s new reporter. Nicole can’t believe Eric will be working there too. Eric comments on the mysterious ways. Chad comes back and says he’s glad they are both there and they will both get to working as he already has an idea for an assignment. Chad reveals they will be working together and he thinks it will be a good solid way to get them started.

EJ complains to Rita about Paulina hanging up on him. EJ declares this disrespect will not stand, so if Paulina wants a war, she’s got one.

Chanel questions being pregnant when they used protection. Johnny can’t believe it but calls it amazing news. They then note Kayla’s expression and Johnny asks what it is. Kayla explains that based on the results, Chanel is about 4-5 weeks along and it seems as though Chanel does not have radiation poisoning, those first weeks are crucial to the baby’s development. Chanel asks if something could be wrong with their baby. Kayla declares that they will consider it a high risk pregnancy. Kayla wants Chanel to make an appointment with her OB-GYN immediately and says they will continue to monitor her pregnancy. Paulina asks how long until they know the baby is okay. Kayla responds that it could be a few weeks or it could be after the baby is born and notes that everything could be perfectly fine, but they have no way of knowing at this point, leaving Chanel worried in tears.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

Shhh. She’s finally sleeping. Well, I’m glad somebody’s getting some sleep around here. Here. What are you doing? Well, I know you don’t trust me. Message received. Loud and clear. So, here. Here’s everything. This is my accounts, bank statements, passwords. Take it. Here. And I promise you, I will never give Leah Stark another dime.

All my life. I know this doesn’t solve the issue. What me, Eric? I want the truth. Ahem.

Hey, what are these for me? Well, reception did ask me to deliver it to you. Oh, well, well. Looks like someone’s trying to butter me up. Don’t keep me in suspense. Read the card. Okay. And It’s from the estimable mayor of Salem. It’s just a small token of my appreciation. Thanks, guys. Uh, here, why don’t you take what you want and then throw the rest in the kitchen for whoever else wants it.

Chadwick! You truly are a man of the people. Your thoughtfulness and generosity know no bounds. Okay, is there something that you That I need, yes. I wanted to talk to you about the recorder position. Okay, uh, you said you weren’t interested in it. Well, I thought about it and I changed my mind. I’m ready to write about anything.

Great. I appreciate your, uh, enthusiasm. But, uh, I’m sorry. Sorry why? I offered the position to Nicole. She accepted it.

The Benedict was mind blowing. Chef’s hollandaise sauce is hands down. My favorite thing ever. I needed to make sure you had a proper meal before your big first day. Oh, that’s very sweet of you. So, what made you change your tune? With regards to Me joining the workforce, because when I first mentioned it, you were somewhat less than keen on it.

I’ll admit, I was thrown by the initial idea, but the more we talked about it, the more I could see that spark in your eye. And what makes you happy, makes me happy.

Hey, baby girl. You were saying your throat was dry, so I brought you some nice cold water. Thank you, Mama. How’s the nausea? It’s pretty persistent. Oh, sweetheart. And where’s Kayla? She was supposed to Uh, right here. Right here. Okay, what’s going on, Chanel? Uh, well, I, I just feel, like, not myself. Uh, fatigue.

Dizziness, nausea. You said that if we notice anything to come see you right away, so It’s radiation poisoning, isn’t it?

Like sand through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.

So you hired Nicole. I guess that makes sense. Yeah, look, I think Nicole is going to bring a fresh perspective to the paper. One in which we desperately need right now. We do. 100%. But hey, look, if something else comes up, you know, maybe at the Metro desk, you’ll be the first person I ask. Great. Thank you. And in the meantime, Chadwick, would you consider giving me a raise?

Nothing crazy. 2%, 5%, 20 percent if you’re feeling generous. Just something, you know, commensurate with the amazing work I do around here. Okay, how about we talk about it during your, uh, Q4 review? Fine. That’s great. You know, since the love of my life is being released from prison, just any extra money would help me provide a better life for him.

Which he deserves after all these months of being incarcerated. He gave up a lot for me, including his inheritance. Well? Maybe Dimitri should get a job. How about that? I mean, I’m sure he’ll try. There’s not much need for an ex con with no skills, who’s all beauty, no brains. Uh, not that he’s stupid, not by any means, but he is certainly a bit of a lewdite.

You know, he types with one finger. Quite, uh, But still, you know, one finger you make so many mistakes. Anyway, you know what? I think I will bring some of these snacks to Dimitri, so at least he has some sweets waiting for him upon his return. Take as much as you want. Oh, thanks. Oh, and if you need me for the rest of the day, I am going to be working from home.

I’m going to be trying to auction off my gorgeous needlepoint pillows on eBay. Bye bye.

symptoms are actually very common and could be linked to any number of illnesses. It could be just a bad stomach bug. If we can rule out radiation poisoning, then let’s, let’s do it now. We will right away. Okay. We’ll do a blood work panel and then we’ll have a better idea what we’re dealing with. How are you doing?

You need anything? I’m okay for now. Okay. Sorry, you too, but I’m going to ask you to step outside so I can examine Chanel. Okay. I’ll see you soon, my love. Well, tell Gillis that I appreciate the brief, but he absolutely has to take the fuller case. To when? No, no, no. Move that and reschedule. Yes, I’ll be in later today, as soon as I can.

Sorry, I’m getting another call. I’ll text you.

Rita, what did sales say? I’m afraid I can’t make that time, but I want the meeting to happen today. Just tell sales to do the stand up without me. You’ll take notes and upload to my, uh, to my vault. Good. I’ll be in shortly.

Sorry about that. Honey, don’t be sorry. It comes with the territory. I married a very important man. Oh, and I married a very important, not to mention beautiful and charming woman.

And I love being able to share every single part of me with her. I love you, Nicole. You know, I just might be falling for you, too. That works out well, doesn’t it?

Because by each other’s side, there is nothing that we can’t do. I told you the truth, Eric, last night. And what you said absolutely made zero sense. Why would you be giving me your money when you know that a family is struggling financially? I didn’t think it was that bad, okay? Look, I’ve been working, making a decent living, like I always have.

I didn’t see an issue with helping out a friend. You know, what? Yes, I wanted to be generous and, and, and, and kind to a fellow human. So you were trying to make yourself feel like a better person. What? That’s That’s a bad thing? You don’t approve of that? Of my wanting to be, you know, Selfless? Charitable?

Are you kidding me right now? This is not what this is about! Nicole once told me that she felt she was never good enough for you. Seems like I’m not either. Maybe no one is. Sloane, where are you going? I need space. Sloane! I need time, Eric. Alone.

Some tea? Thank you.

Look, Paulina. I know you’re upset right now, okay, but just try not to be too hard on yourself. How can I not be hard on myself? I put my baby girl in danger. Of course. You know, let’s just wait and see what Kayla has to say. Oh.

Hello? Hi, Mayor Price. It’s Chad DiMera. Um, I was hoping I could, uh, follow up with you for a quote on a story that I’m working on. Is, uh, is now a good time? Couldn’t be worse. Call my assistant.

Who’s that? It was your Uncle Chad. What? I know that I asked you to Put in a good word with him about that story he’s writing about, but I can’t ask you that anymore. Not now. If, if Chanel has radiation poisoning because of me, then I deserve whatever, whatever scathing criticism I get for it. Alright. Here we go.

Here it is. Oh, one second. Hold on. Eric Brady. Hey, Eric. It’s Chad the Mayor. I’m glad I caught ya. Chad, hey. What’s going on? Uh, look, I was hoping that, um, that you could come by the office and, uh, we could talk about you doing some work for the paper. Is, uh What’s your schedule look like? Uh, yeah, yeah, I can be there in 20 minutes.

Awesome. I’m looking forward to it. Yeah, me too. Thanks. Bye.

Well, good news. Not timing, but good news. Okay, um, what are we gonna do? Now that mommy is gone, you might Boom! Okay, problem solved. You are going to be coming with daddy on his first big interview. Yeah. That’s what’s gonna happen. Okay.

Where’s my coffee? There’s plenty in the break room, and if you ask politely, I might just pour you a cup. Please and thank you go a long way, D. A. DiMera. Understood. So please, could you go get me some coffee, and I will be ever so thankful. But before you go, what’s the latest? In short, I’m running both your DiMera and D.

A. calendars on the new software in an effort to maintain some semblance of order. And? So far, so good. In terms of the university proposal, have you been able to review it? I have. I dropped my notes for you in your folder. I’ll move it along. Stan where? Depot’s next week. What about the weekly here in the office?

Wouldn’t miss it for the world! You sure about that? What exactly are you insinuating? Mr. DiMera, I’ve worked for every CEO here, from your father down the line, and with all due respect, you’re all the same. Brilliant, charming, handsome, world class leaders? Also arrogant, rude, and egotistical. Also wonderful qualities in my book.

But, ooh, before I forget, uh, I need you to swing by my other office after lunch. Waiting for a please in that sentence. Please? And, since I’m not a paralegal, why? Well, for one, I trust you. Two, you’re extremely efficient with time. And three, I pay you much more generously than a paralegal. I’m sure your actual paralegal is thrilled about that.

Well, she can take that up with Mayor Price. Speaking of, how does Mayor Price feel about her DA taking on a second job? I haven’t told her yet, as a matter of tact, really. She’s just got a lot going on lately. Tact, right. And, I think that if everything is running smoothly, It’s not really any of her concern.

So to that end, Rita, could you please swing by my other office after lunch and pick up the two case folders that are ready on my desk? Yes, sir. Oh, and by the way, as generously as you think you pay me, not generous enough. Is that your way of asking for a raise Rita? I’ll get your coffee now. Mmm.

That’s delicious. The rest, though, I will save for the love of my life, who will be out in three days, four hours, twenty five minutes and five seconds.

Good, you’re here. Sloane, this isn’t a good time unless you’re here to help me plan a welcome home party for Dimitri. No, I’m not here to help you with that. I’m here to make sure that you and the love of your life keep quiet about Jude. Uh, I hate to break it to you, but Demetri and I owe you nothing since you cut me off.

Look, Leo, Eric is crazy about his son. You came to the baptism, that little boy means everything to him. His heart would be in a million pieces if you took that kid away from him. Ha! And little Jude, he needs his mommy and his daddy. If you, if you don’t do it for Eric, please just do it for that, that little boy that you claim to care so much about.

Our son, he needs a family.

Reporting for duty, Captain. Hey, welcome to the team. Oh, I have to say, I am like a kid on the first day of school. I’m nervous and I’m excited. Listen, you’re going to do, you’re going to do amazing, Nicole. You have a ton of experience. Um, you’re obviously very smart. Thank you for the kind words. Uh, so what are you working on now?

Uh, yeah, the, uh, piece about Mayor Price’s recent radioactive misadventures. Oh, how’s that coming along? Yeah, solid. Thank you again for the tip. You know, sent me down a fairly informative rabbit hole. I think there’s a real story there. Disruptive? Potentially, yeah. As far as the, uh Mayor’s future political aspirations are concerned.

But, uh, you know, good or bad, gotta tell the public. Absolutely. She’s an elected official, after all. Um, it did make me wonder, though. How did you come across that information? So what do you think? An expose on Mayor Price and her most recent and possibly most egregious misappropriation of power. What a coup, right?

I don’t, I don’t know, EJ. I don’t even officially have the job yet. And to take off from the starting line with a potentially career threatening accusation against our beloved mayor? Beloved by whom? Not the everyday citizens I’ve been talking to. Okay, well, Chanel, I mean, she is Paulina’s daughter and married to your son.

Yes, I’m aware of that. Which, selfishly, is all the more reason people need to be aware that she is a ticking time bomb. Lest we forget, she put our lives and the lives of others at serious risk by carelessly running off to Smith Island when she was more radioactive than a bloody house cat in Chernobyl.

Okay, don’t you think that’s possibly a bit dramatic? Absolutely not. And I think it is someone’s duty to tell the truth, even when the truth isn’t pretty. Especially when the truth isn’t pretty.

Excuse me, I have to take this. I trust the spectator will do the right thing.

You haven’t even tasted it yet. Oh, no, no, not the coffee. Uh, thank you, by the way. What’s wrong then? I was sure that the Spectator’s Exposé on Matt Price would impose by now. Why would you even expect that? From what I’ve heard, she’s been dealing with health issues. Oh, still working tirelessly for the people.

Well, I’ve heard from my sources there’s been a few Ah, those dreaded rumblings. I guess you could say I’m curious to see what shakes. An expose suggests some kind of dirty little secret, no? But what kind of skin have you got in the game, Mr. DiMera? If I were to be honest, the dynamic between Mayor Price and me has been less than ideal.

If she were to land in the mud, yes, that would be unfortunate. But I would continue to carry out my duties with the same fervor and commitment that my constituents expect from me. So, you don’t like her? She micromanages. She’s, she’s, she’s insufferable. Micromanaging bosses always are. Uh. Here’s a suggestion.

Kill him with kindness. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, one tends to catch more flies with honey. Say it. Say it. It’s

all my fault. Paulina. Maybe if you yelled at me, released some of that pent up frustration and anger, we’d both feel better. I have no desire to yell at you. Alright, that’s the last thing I want to do. Hey. Hey. I care about you, Paulina. I love you. Okay, and, and what you did coming to rescue Chanel, you were just doing what you thought was right at the time.

Uh, oh. Hey. How is she? Well, her vitals are really good. So we’re just going to wait for the blood work results, okay? Okay, so uh, can I go back to her room? Of course. Okay.

Why is this happening, Kayla? I’m the one who took the radioactive pill. Why am I okay and Chanel is sick? I don’t have any answers. I wish I did. You’re just gonna have to be patient, alright? Oh, how can I be patient? Patient. When my daughter is sick, because of me. When instead of trying to save her like I thought I was doing, I put her life in jeopardy.

Oh, how can I, can I be patient? How can I live with myself?

Wow, really tugging at the heartstrings, Sloane, going all out. Why wouldn’t I go all out? I mean, you and I both know EJ and Nicole, they’re gonna make the worst parents on the planet for little Jude. Well, I’d certainly be up there. Just look at Holly. I mean, and EJ’s kids. God, they’re all screwed up. Little Jude’s best life is with me and Eric.

Okay, look, I’m not gonna lie. That baptism, it gave me all the feels. But Sloane, the other reality here is that Eric is on to you. He is suspicious as hell. How long until this all blows up in your face? 48 hours? 36? Cause I’m going with more like 10 minutes actually. No, no, no. Leo, you listen to me and you listen hard.

You gain nothing by telling anyone anything. Okay? You’re just opening a whole new can of trouble and misery. The best thing that you can do for Dimitri to welcome him home is when he gets here, just bounce. Leave town. Start a new life. With Salem in the rear view.

Hey

beautiful. Johnny. Oh. Better now that you’re here. I’m going crazy just having to wait like this. You know about all the damage that radiation poisoning does to the body? Yeah, I’m sure it’s not great. And not to mention the treatments. Johnny, I’m scared. I’m trying not to show it in front of Mama, but I’m really freaked out.

Hey, look at me. Okay? Take my hand. Chanel, I love you. Okay, and we are going to have the best life together. I promise.

I think you might be onto something here, Rita. Extending the proverbial olive branch to Mayor Price can only help our relationship move in a more productive direction. Now you’re cooking. So, Paulina Price, what do we know? Well, she’s a true survivor for one. She values hard work. She holds herself in the highest standard.

She cares about Salem, hence hiring me as DA. We’ve got to work on your confidence, Mr. DiMera. Well, what do you think? No time like the present, right? Reach out to her now. Well, why not? The sooner I can make that phone call, the sooner we can build the bridge and we will all be stronger because of it. Isn’t that the first rule of journalism?

You know, you never give up your sources. Yeah, right. Uh, doesn’t apply to your editors. Ah, right. Well, uh, It was just something I, I heard in passing and it, it concerned me. Of course, yeah. And as you know, I live in the same house as Johnny who is a witness to all of it, so Yeah, I mean, there’s that. Right. Um, yeah, well listen, if you come up with any more information or you hear anything, don’t, you know, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Okay. It’s just, at the end of the day, I’m hoping the article is fair and honest because Abe is one of my dearest friends. Yeah, the same. I mean, listen, I, this, this platform is to bring public awareness. It’s not to be destructive or vindictive. So you have my word however this article evolves. Yeah. It’s not going to be hippies.

Got it. Okay. Good. Well, what are you standing around for? You’re supposed to be meeting with Vance. He’s going to set you up in the system so you can start telling your stories.

Leaving town. Hmm. It’s an interesting idea, huh? Truth is, I haven’t given much thought to what Dimitri and I will do next. Well, think about it now, Leo. There’s a whole exciting world out there. Big cities, tons of opportunities. L. A., Chicago. Have you been to New York? Austin’s amazing. What’s, what’s tying you down?

Go take care of you. You know, while you are footloose and fancy free. It is tempting. I like the idea of L. A. actually. The weather, the beaches, the La Brea Tar Pits. But New York has Central Park, Broadway, flaming saddles. Just, okay, I have to go, but I wish you and Dimitri all the happiness in the world, L. A.,

New York, whatever city it may be that you guys go, okay?

Oh, yeah. Well, first, to achieve said happiness, we are gonna need some moolah.

How to rake in the big bucks. I could become an influencer. I already am one. Um, stylist? Underwear model? Sell organs? No, that’s gross. Oh, I could get a second job at Saxton’s. No, no. With the employee discount, all I would do is shop.

E. J. DiMera.

What the info I possess would be worth to him. Hey.

Security told me we’re gonna have an extra visitor today. Yeah, I’m sorry about that. Normally, I Wouldn’t bring my son to an interview, but last minute child care options are far and few between. No worries, man. Jude will be our, uh, our honorary guest. Oh, good. Um, well, he’s beautiful. Yeah, he is.

Unfortunately, he fell asleep on the way. Listen, man, well, should we get started? Yeah, have a seat.

Um, I, so look, you know, I, uh, I took a look at your portfolio, and uh, I was very impressed. So, we’d love to have you do some work here at the paper, if you’re still interested. very much. Yeah? Yeah. Good. Um, I mean, it’d be freelance to start. For the first few assignments, at least, if that’s fair. Yeah, fair.

Okay, good. Um, This is the, uh, employee handbook. Read it over. I’m gonna go, uh, talk to HR and get your paperwork started. Sounds great. Welcome to the team. Thank you. Alright. Good news, right, buddy? Good for our entire team. Our whole family, that is. Eric. What are you doing here?

So, bribing EJ. Let’s start with the pros. Could be a huge possible payday if I spilled the beans. Dimitri and I would be set for life. And the cons, he is the DA and he’s a DiMera. Do I want to tangle with all that? Is it worth it? Ah, and taking Jude from Eric. That would be so hurtful to that sweet little boy.

I wish there was like, a procedure that could just remove my conscience. I know. I’ll go for a walk. That’s what I’ll do. I’ll go for a walk and clear my head.

I texted Abraham. I told him it’s, it’s a waiting game. He sends his love, told me to tell you that he’s praying for you. Thanks. Oh, Kayla. Yeah? I have your test results. Uh, Chanel, would you like to discuss them privately? Uh, no, it’s fine. Mama and Johnny can stay. Oh, oh, oh, sorry. D. A. DiMera. Oh, good. Mayor Price, I caught you.

I was wondering if we could meet up to discuss our current, rather unfortunate situation. Try to clear the air. Uh, no, not now. I’m going to have to get back to you.

Please, continue. Um, okay. Uh, your tests came back normal. Oh, thank God! Just one exception. You’re pregnant, Chanel.

Melinda, I’m telling you, it actually worked. I finally got through to Leo. Combination of things, really. Most being how focused he is on having Dimitri come back home. Yeah, I checked with the courts. That SOB should be returning very soon. And Leo’s just happy to have him back. Wants to celebrate. A fresh start.

Which means I think they’d be open to leaving Salem and never coming back. Me too. I think it’s gonna be okay. It is. Oh, the new Saxton’s catalog. Excellent. Let’s see. Junk. Junk. Garbage. No thank you. And Ah! Ah, bestow my heart, it’s a letter from Dimitri.

Dear Leo, by the time you receive this letter, I will I will be gone. Off on a new adventure.

With someone I met during my time inside. Someone very special.

I did care deeply about you, Leo, but I now realize that we weren’t right for each other. And this man I fell in love with is perfect for me and I for him. I know you’ll be hurt, but I hope once you get over your heartache, you can be happy for me. I also hope that someday you find the perfect love as I have.

Goodbye forever, Leo. You’re Matthew Perry, a. k. a. Dimitri.

You got a job here too? Freelance photography. I’m tired of all of it. Wow, that is almost spooky. Wow, and you are This is my first day. Uh, well, I am the Spectator’s newest ace reporter. Wow. Wow. I cannot believe you’re going to be working here too. Mysterious ways, as always. Huh. Oh, good. Both here. You’re going to do this for HR, Eric.

Um, and uh, IT’s going to get you set up. Both of you set up on servers today because I already have an idea for an assignment. That was fast. It’s no time like the present. Uh, you’re going to be working on it together. So, I think it’s going to be a good solid way to get you guys started.

Paulina hung up on me, dammit. Oof. How dare she? Who does she think she is? Couple of obvious answers to that. This disrespect will not stand if Mad Price wants a war. She’s got one.

Pregnant? Well, we use protection. I mean, I know it’s not always 100 percent effective, but Oh my god, John. Wow. I, I, I mean, I, I, I can’t I mean, this is amazing news, right?

Kayla, what is it? Well, based on HGC numbers and the timing of your last menstrual cycle, we are placing you at about four to five weeks along, Chanel. And although it seems that you do not have radiation poisoning, The first few weeks of a pregnancy are crucial for the proper development of a fetus’s major organs.

So something could be wrong with our baby? Well, we’re going to consider this a high risk pregnancy. So I would like you to make an appointment with your OBGYN immediately. But we will continue to monitor your health and the baby’s health through the whole pregnancy. So, how long will it be before we know that the baby’s okay?

Well, it could be a few weeks, or it could be after the baby’s born. And then everything could be perfectly fine. But we just have no way of knowing at this point, and I really wish we did.

Billy: Hi.

Abby: Hi. Thank you for meeting me.

Billy: Of course. I can’t turn down an invitation from my favorite niece.

Abby: Hmm. Even though I didn’t vote the way you would’ve liked at the board meeting about daniel’s lawsuit?

Billy: I don’t think it’s in the best interest to get into a legal battle at this time with chancellor-winters. But that’s business, right? Although it does get a little tricky when you mix corporate politics and family politics. I’m sure that was a little uncomfortable for you.

Abby: Well, I’m not a rookie at this. And I have maintained my seat on the jabot board despite any family conflicts, and I’ve enjoyed it. Yes, it may get complicated, but that’s part of the fun, right?

Billy: It definitely is. I take it that was your first board vote alongside a romantic partner? It’s a whole new ballgame, isn’t it?

Nate: So, are lily and abby joining us?

Devon: Not this time.

Nate: Oh. Well, this seems to be a little more serious than a casual drink with my cousin.

Devon: Yeah. Yeah. That’s, um– it’s as serious as it gets. ‘Cause I need to know that I can trust you.

Nikki: [ Slurring ] Uh, victor? Victor? Jack? Lauren? Jack? Oh, can’t you people stop calling me? Can I have one damn moment of peace? I mean, is that so much to ask?

[ Grunts ]

[ Sighs ] That bitch is finally dead. I deserve this. I earned it.

[ Cell phone buzzes ] God, who now? Oh… well, victor again. “I’ve been trying to reach you. “Where are you?” Right where I wanna be. Yep.

[ Exhales ] Right where I wanna be.

[ Both laughing ]

Ashley: I’m having more fun than I have had in ages.

Alan: Well, maybe you should get out more often.

Ashley: Well, that is the truth. I hate to use this pun, but you are just what the doctor ordered, doctor.

Alan: Even though your brother and sister want me to–

Ashley: Examine me? Oh, yeah. Examine away. I’m an open book. Could we get through all the boring things, though, and get down to the good stuff? Especially if there’s a happy ending involved.

Alan: Your voice.

Ashley: What– what about it?

Alan: Well, it’s just, uh– there’s something different about it. Like, I can’t quite put my finger on it.

Ashley: I find that when I’m in france… [ Laughs ] … I tend to speak more carefully and more distinctly. You know? I get back into the good ol’ usa, and back comes the american accent. It’s kind of like taking off a too-tight high heel and putting something more comfortable on.

Alan: Well, it’s, uh, very charming.

Ashley: Ah, thank you. Almost out of bubbles.

Alan: Oh, no.

Ashley: Do you wanna order another one?

Alan: Ah, hmm…

Ashley: What do you think?

Alan: I’m not sure it’S…

Ashley: Uh…

Jack: I hope I’m not interrupting.

Ashley: What are you doing here? I didn’t think diane let you out after dark.

Jack: I was working late. I thought I might drop by for a drink.

Ashley: Ugh. Liar, liar, pants on fire. Traci snitched on me, and now you’re here to wreck my date. Try killing bugs the worry-free way.

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Jack: You must be ashley’s friend, alan.

Alan: Alan laurent.

Ashley: Yeah, this is my brother, jack.

Alan: Oh! Yes, jack. Nice to meet you.

Jack: Hope it was an easy flight.

Alan: It was. Thank you very much for the ticket.

Jack: How long you visiting genoa city?

Alan: Uh, not long. I’m guest lecturing at a psychology convention next week. I’ll be due in vienna, so…

Ashley: Unless I can talk you out of going. People tell me I’m pretty good at getting what I want.

Alan: Of that, I have no doubt. Would you like to join us?

Ashley: Oh, don’t feel obligated.

Jack: Thank you. I think I will. So, ashley has kept you under wraps. I know you’re friends, but not much more. How long have you two known each other? When did you meet?

Ashley: Go ahead. Why don’t you tell that story?

Alan: No, I think you would do it justice.

Ashley: Well, damn. Nobody told me there was gonna be a pop quiz.

Abby: Yes, serving on the board alongside devon is different, but I’m up for the challenge.

Billy: No doubt about that. It does have its benefits, of course.

Abby: Do I like where this is going?

Billy: Look, I just mean that I’m not devon’s favorite person right now, so I’m sure he knows I’d be a little reluctant to sit down with him and break bread. So maybe that’s why we’re here. Maybe you’re here to deliver a peace offering. Or maybe it’s a warning.

Abby: I’m gonna try not to be offended, because you clearly don’t think I have a mind of my own.

Billy: That’s not how I meant that.

Abby: But because you are my favorite uncle, I’m gonna let it slide. The fact is, devon does not know I’m meeting with you tonight.

Billy: That’s interesting. Under the radar. Why’s that?

Abby: I just wanna give you a heads up.

Billy: So this is a warning?

Abby: No, it’s not a warning. I’m just– I’m concerned. I care about you and devon very much, and I don’t like where I sense this is going.

Devon: I’m worried about a situation that could be a threat to the company, and it concerns lily.

Nate: Lily?

Devon: Yeah.

Nate: Wow. For a second there, I thought you were about to say billy.

Devon: Well, that’s who I’m talking about. Billy is the threat. ‘Cause you and I both know that he’s been trying to flex his power around the office lately, and I feel like it’s a part of his agenda right now to get close to lily and get her to side with him.

Nate: How do you know that? Do you have proof?

Devon: I don’t have anything concrete. It’s just something I picked up on between the two of them that I felt before, and I can usually trust my gut.

Nate: But that’s not a lot to go on, no matter how strong a gut feeling you have. And this is lily we’re talking about here.

Devon: Right. It’s not just that, though. There’s more. She’s upset with me because of the fact that I knew what was going on between daniel and heather while she was out of town, and I didn’t say anything.

Nate: Ah. So she was hurt and upset when she realized it.

Devon: Yeah.

Nate: But, again, lily isn’t the type to hold grudges. And you did vote with her to fight daniel’s lawsuit.

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Nate: I don’t see what you have to be worried about.

Devon: I’m worried that i can’t count on her vote anymore. And that if she keeps siding with billy and jill on everything, I’m gonna lose all say in my own company.

Nate: Okay, so what do you wanna do about it?

Devon: I wanna figure out how to get billy out of the company.

If you have chronic

kidney disease you can reduce

Nate: Trying to oust billy? That’s a big move. Jill will raise hell.

Devon: Not if it’s done right. And I’m starting to get to the point where I feel like we don’t have a choice, nate.

Nate: Um, so figuring out how to work together isn’t an option?

Devon: Why would I want to? I mean, really, you’ve witnessed firsthand how he is. He challenges every single thing that I have to say, and the only thing he cares about is putting his family stamp on the company. There’s nothing productive about having him with us.

Nate: Don’t take this the wrong way, but I’m wondering if your concern is more personal than for the good of the company.

Devon: And why would you say that?

Nate: Well, you’re upset with billy because he’s challenging you, challenging your authority, authority you wanna hold on to.

Devon: You know, though, that I’ve built this company, half the company, from the ground up with neil. So I’ve earned that authority. What’s billy done? What does he do besides waltz in and out at chancellor-winters whenever he wants and make demands and think that he’s due respect that he hasn’t earned? Nobody wants to work with somebody like that. And if nothing changes in regards to him being there, I’m gonna have to really start thinking about pulling myself out altogether and taking half of the company with me.

Nate: What? You’d really go that far?

Devon: I absolutely would if I was pushed to it. This is about me being worried that billy is getting to lily. ‘Cause if that happens, everything we built could fall apart.

Nate: Why would you think that? Lily’s allegiance has always been to her family. Unless you don’t trust your own sister?

Abby: Look, billy, I don’t know how this is gonna play out. But I don’t think it’s gonna be pretty. And you and devon are the eye of the storm.

Billy: Look, abby, we butt heads. Okay, but that’s business. We’re not gonna agree on everything. We don’t have to agree on everything.

Abby: I get that. But this seems personal.

Billy: Why do you say that?

Abby: Devon seems to think that you’re making power plays to try to gain more control of chancellor-winters.

Billy: Did he say that?

Abby: And I told him of course not. But, billy, I need to know the truth. What are you really wanting out of chancellor-winters?

Ashley: We were two americans in paris, and we met at a café.

Alan: It was a museum, actually.

Ashley: The louvre.

Alan: The d’orsay.

Ashley: I know. [ Laughs ] We were looking at a monet.

[ Alan clears throat ]

Alan: It was a van gogh.

Ashley: And you were there all by yourself, just looking at the paintings and just–

Alan: Actually, I was there with a colleague. We’d just come from the office.

Ashley: Her name was antoinette.

Alan: His name was jean-claude.

Ashley: Of course, I recall. You know– you know, that whole day just kind of pales in comparison of meeting my– my dear friend, alan.

Jack: Well, that’s some story.

Ashley: And I am still so blessed that I can call you my friend.

Alan: It’s nice to catch up.

Ashley: It really is.

Jack: Well, it’s good you’re here, alan. I won’t interrupt your evening anymore. I hope to see you before you leave for europe.

Alan: I look forward to it. Your brother’s very charming.

Ashley: No, he isn’T. That was a fishing expedition. He’s dying for an update about my mental capacity, or lack thereof. So how am I doing, doctor?

Nikki: [ Slurring ] Why can’t you people just leave me alone? I’m so sick of it. Sick of it. The way you all look at me. “Poor nikki. “So brave. “So strong. “So drunk. “And so weak. “Can’t trust her, though. “Don’t trust her, she’ll make “everything worse. “And so stupid.” It’s all my fault. All my fault.

Nikki: I– I– I shouldn’T. I need… I need jack. I need help. Ah…

[ Exhales ] Victor? Victor, are you here? Victor? Oh, thank god you’re here.

Victor: Wait, wait, wait. Who the hell allowed you on the ranch? How did you get in here?

Nikki: What?

Victor: Get out! You didn’t live this strong,

Nikki: Get out? What are you talking about?

Victor: I will call security if you don’t get out right now.

Nikki: No, no, no, don’t– don’t do it like this. I– I– give me another chance.

Victor: What do you mean, another chance? I’ve given you more chances than one can shake your fist at!

Nikki: I’ll stop drinking, I promise.

Victor: You’re drunk right now!

Nikki: No, I’m not.

Victor: You’re lying.

Nikki: Victor, please…

Victor: Why don’t you go see jack abbott? Your sponsor. Your savior. The man I detest. Is that why you brought him on?

Nikki: You know it’s not.

Victor: And then you brought jordan into our lives.

Nikki: Well, I– I–

Victor: Didn’t you?

Nikki: I didn’t mean for that to happen.

Victor: And you know what happened, right? She traumatized our great-grandson. And who knows what our granddaughter’s going through right now. She may be fighting for her life! You did that!

Victoria: Mom!

Nick: What are you doing here?

Nikki: Please. Please talk to your father. Tell him how sorry I am. He’ll listen to you.

Nick: You’re sorry?

Victoria: You think sorry is enough? After the hell you’ve put our family through?

Alan: There is no diagnosis, ashley. You and I are friends, just like we were in paris.

Ashley: Right. But there’s an agenda.

Alan: Look, your family’s worried about you. All right? Just like you were concerned about your memories around tucker, and we talked it through then, and I believe it helped. Maybe we can do the same now. You know? So I– I would love to spend some time with you and, uh… you know, just go over what’s on your mind.

Ashley: Okay. Well, um… we don’t have to get another bottle here. We could go somewhere else. I happen to know a lovely little jazz club that is in the hotel that you’re staying in. It’ll almost remind you of paris.

Alan: Hmm. That does sound tempting.

Ashley: Okay, say yes.

Alan: Unfortunately, the jet lag is kicking in. I’m gonna have to call it a night.

Ashley: How about since you don’t know anything about this city, I escort you back to your hotel, okay?

Alan: Sounds lovely.

Ashley: Okay.

Alan: Allow me.

Ashley: Thank you.

Billy: What I want is for chancellor-winters to be as successful as it possibly can. And I want my mother’s position, her contribution, and her legacy to be represented.

Abby: Devon respects jill very much, and he knows how valuable she is to the company.

Billy: Oh, sure, as long as he doesn’t have to publicly acknowledge it beyond a pat on the back.

Abby: That’s unfair.

Billy: What I think is unfair is that my entire focus has been on what’s best for this company. It’s devon that is taking it personal, as if everything I’m doing to help this company is a direct competition to his kingdom.

Abby: That’s a bit harsh, don’t you think?

Billy: Abby, devon’s mo has always been complete autonomy, okay? And given the corporate structure of this company, it’s not conducive to that. Yeah, have I shaken things up a little bit since coming here? Have I challenged his authority here and there? Maybe. But it’s been for good reason. And now, I’m the newest threat to his control.

Abby: Well, devon thinks you want complete autonomy. So that’s the problem. How do I fix this? How do I facilitate a truce between two of my favorite guys so you can work together?

Billy: I hate to break it to you, but I think we’re past the point of hugging it out.

Devon: I trust lily. Completely. Billy’s the one I have a problem with. All right? ‘Cause I know that those two have a history together, and I know that she’s vulnerable right now because of what daniel just put her through. She’s probably trying to figure out who she can trust, and billy is right there whispering in her ear.

Nate: But wouldn’t she be looking for absolute stability? Meaning family. Instead of someone like billy, who’s let her down how many times now?

Devon: That makes sense, yeah. You’d think so. But like I said, she’s vulnerable. And billy knows this, and he’s gonna use it.

Nate: Against you?

Devon: Okay, I’m the one he doesn’t like. Yes.

Nate: Look… have you ever considered that maybe you’re overreacting?

Devon: No, I haven’T. Why, do you think I’m being paranoid?

[ Nate sighs ] Okay. I mean… uh… I don’t even know what to say. Maybe this is what billy wants. He wants us to turn on each other.

Nate: No, I– I’m not turning on you, devon. I’m just stating an opinion that’s different from yours.

[ Sighs ] I wonder what neil would think about all this infighting. Who was more about family than your father?

Devon: I completely agree. Which is why all I’m trying to do, and all I’ve ever tried to do, is protect this family’s legacy through the company. And I think that we need to be prepared to fight if it comes to that. So I’m just asking if I can count on you.

Nate: Well, you’re doubting lily, and you’ve gone back to questioning my loyalty. So if this is the direction things are headed in, and billy’s the cause, well, I agree with you on one thing. We have to get abbott out of the company. This skinny pop is amazing.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Chance: Take it I wasn’t supposed to hear that.

Devon: We don’t mind you hearing what we said. We’re not keeping any secrets. And I know where your loyalty lies.

Chance: Oh, you do, huh?

Devon: Yeah.

Chance: Okay, well, what happened to loyalty to chancellor-winters, devon? Because that’s where my loyalty lies. I don’t know about you, but this infighting, this petty, personal bull that’s going on, I want nothing to do with it. So if you want to let me go for having an opinion that you don’t like, I will gladly pack up my office now.

Devon: Nobody’s saying that at all. Not at all. I think that you just– you’re not understanding what’s at stake.

Chance: It mostly sounds like your egos.

Nate: I’m with chance on this. One way or another, we have to stop turning on each other. The only way we can help chancellor-winters shine is to get past this conflict and work as a united front.

Devon: Okay. I will– I’m a little confused now ’cause of what you’re saying. I feel like I can count on you about as much as billy can count on chance.

Billy: Devon wants to run this company on his own, the way he always has been. He’s not interested in working together for the greater good.

Abby: Chancellor-winters has been very successful.

Billy: It has been. Maybe despite devon, but not because of him, okay? Time and time again, he’s proven he doesn’t wanna work together. He sees any sort of disagreement, any sort of difference of opinion, as a mutiny. We can’t stand for that if we want chancellor-winters to see its full potential.

Abby: It sounds like you want devon out. Would you actually do that?

Nikki: Darling, you don’t mean that.

Victoria: Why did you let her in?

Nikki: Are you turning on me too?

Victoria: I may never see claire again because of you.

Nikki: I– I was just trying to help.

Victoria: You only pretended to accept her.

Nikki: No, I did accept her.

Victoria: You blamed claire for getting you hooked on alcohol again and this mess that you’ve become.

Nikki: That is not true.

Victoria: Then you whine that it’s everyone else’s fault, that you’re a drunk, but it’s what you’ve always been. It’s who you’ve always been.

Nikki: Nicholas, you know that that’s not true. Please tell her. Tell your father.

Nick: You made my daughter’s life hell. She almost lost her son because of you. He’s barely speaking because of you.

Nikki: I’ll talk to summer. I’ll explain it to her.

Nick: Mom, she doesn’t wanna see you ever again, and neither do I.

Nikki: What?

Victor: Why are you doing this to our children?

Nikki: I– I– I just wanna fix things.

Victor: Some things can’t be fixed.

Nikki: Please, just let– let me make things right.

Victoria: The only way that you can make things right is to stop embarrassing yourself. If you don’t call security, I’m going to.

Nikki: Nicholas. Nicholas, please.

Nick: Mom, you brought this on yourself.

Nikki: Why are you doing this? We’re family.

Nick: Because you’re a drunk.

Nikki: And– and I wanna get sober. You know I do, but I– I can’t do it alone. I need you.

Nick: Mom, we’ve given you every chance imaginable!

Nikki: This time is different.

Victoria: It’s not gonna be different than any other time. We have offered to help you, but you’ve always been too proud, too strong.

Victor: The only support you ever wanted is jack abbott’s support. I came to you many times. You pushed me away. You accused me of hovering over you. Didn’t you?

Nikki: Well, jack is– is my sponsor–

Victor: I don’t give a damn what he is. I can’t stand the guy. You ran to him every time.

Nikki: But, darling, I love you.

Victor: You disgust me.

Nikki: Please don’t say that.

Victor: You reap what you sow! Live with it!

Nikki: But, victor, please–

Victor: Get the hell out of here! I can’t stand looking at you! Out!

Ashley: I swear.

Alan: Okay, murders, uh, kidnapping, and an explosion. That’s quite the history this hotel has. And all those scandals. Are you sure you didn’t make some of that up?

Ashley: I am. And I may have participated in one or two, but I’ll never tell.

Alan: Your secrets are safe with me.

Ashley: Are they?

Alan: This– this is me. I assume no scandals happened here.

Ashley: Not yet.

Alan: Ashley, I do miss hanging out with you.

Ashley: Yeah?

Alan: You are more entertaining than ever.

Ashley: Entertaining? I was going for irresistible.

Alan: Oh.

Ashley: And, um, I bet you have one or two champagne splits in your minibar that have corks that are just dying to be popped. I’ll behave myself. I’ll even take a peek at your inkblots.

Alan: I would be terrible company.

Ashley: Not possible.

Alan: I promise I will be good as new in the morning.

Ashley: Okay. Well, then I am officially inviting you for breakfast. You can’t say no.

Alan: I wouldn’t think of it. Mwah. Mwah. A demain.

Alan: Jack?

Jack: Look, I’m sorry for the intrusion, but I have to ask. How does my sister seem to you?

Alan: I just have to spend more time with ashley before I can give you any real insight as to what’s going on. But there is definitely a different dynamic coming from her than I am used to seeing.

Jack: In what way?

Alan: Well, I mean, ashley is very sophisticated, brilliant. Wry, cool as a cucumber. Today, she’s flirtatious and bubbly, completely out of character. On the other hand, she is, uh, recovering from a broken heart and the trauma of a breakup, and maybe this is her way of handling the stress that she’s been going through.

Jack: Stress may be the underlying problem here, but believe me, there is more than one dynamic at play here.

Alan: Yes, traci told me about that as well, that ashley’s behaving like a teenager at times.

Jack: Young, impetuous, overly earnest.

Alan: But the commanding, more aggressive personality is coming forward as well.

Jack: These days we have no idea which ashley we’re gonna get.

Alan: Well, eventually I’m sure we’ll get to the bottom of it, but like I said, it’s not gonna happen overnight.

Jack: Ashley leaves the house these days, I’m scared. Will she return? She admits to losing time, where she was, how she got there, what she’s done. One minute she’s ready to go to therapy, the next she runs away.

Alan: Yeah, well, that kind of inner conflict is really not that unusual.

Jack: Listen, I have been so desperate to do something, anything, I have actually considered committing her to treatment. What kind of brother does that?

Alan: One who cares. All right? You were trying to help. It is a normal reaction.

Jack: Ashley deserves to live a normal, healthy life. Look, I– I saw how comfortable she was with you, and I gotta say, it gives me a lot of hope.

Alan: I promise you I will do my best.

Ashley: Now, where’s the tequila? What kind of a bar is this anyway? No tequila? Well, that’s no bar at all. Now, what the hell are you doing here?

Ms. Abbott: I’m getting stronger every day.

Belle: Oh, yeah, I can tell. I like your jewelry.

Ms. Abbott: How could you be so stupid? Botching that story of how you first met alan?

Belle: I did just fine.

Ms. Abbott: Well, the hell you did.

Belle: I played it like it was a game. Alan played along, he enjoyed himself, I could tell.

Ms. Abbott: And the entire time he was taking notes. And there you were. Hi, I’m just a bubble-headed idiot. Oh, please, kind sir, won’t you please pour me some more champagne so I can screw this whole thing up even more?

Belle: It was a date. That could lead to something wonderful for ashley.

Ms. Abbott: It wasn’t a date, you moron. It was a psych evaluation over drinks. He’s looking for information so he can take us all down!

Victor: You disgust me!

Nick: You are a drunk.

Victoria: You whine that it’s all their fault that you’re a drunk. But it’s what you’ve always been. It’s who you’ve always been.

Victor: You get the hell out of this house! You get the hell away from all of us!

Nikki: No. My moderate to severe plaque psoriasis held me back…

Nate: You absolutely can trust me to be on board with whatever’s best for chancellor-winters.

Chance: And I second that. I can be counted on when it matters. But when it comes to the bickering, I’m out.

Devon: Okay. And I– I understand that, gentlemen. I get completely where you both are coming from. But my bottom line is, I don’t think billy belongs at the company.

Chance: Okay, so this isn’t about what’s best for the company. It is personal.

Devon: No, that’s not true. It’s both. It’s always both. But since my name’s on the company, it’s always gonna be personal. It’s as personal as it gets. And as the ceo of the winters side of the company, I don’t want billy to be a part of it. And you can let him know that if you like.

Chance: I’m not your messenger.

Devon: I didn’t mean it that way, all right? I’m just saying, I’m not gonna slink around and talk about people behind their backs the way billy abbott does. He can know. In fact, I’m sure he already does know that I don’t want him there.

Abby: Chancellor-winters means everything to devon. He built the winters part with neil. It’s devon’s legacy. It’s my son’s legacy. And you wanna take that away from him?

Billy: Abby, I understand all that, okay? And I’m not trying to push devon out. I simply wanna make a little bit of room at the table.

Abby: You know, I wish I believed you, billy. I really do. But I don’T.

Jack: Given your background, your history with ashley, it gives me a lot of hope.

Alan: Well, I’ll– I’ll do whatever I can.

Jack: Listen, I won’t take up any more of your time. Thank you for indulging me.

Alan: Well, we all want the same thing. Ashley healthy.

Jack: I could not be more grateful that you are here. Hopefully, ashley won’t do another disappearing act or something more troubling.

Ashley: You are just blowing everything out of proportion. And you refuse to see the danger you are putting us all in.

Belle: Please. I have half a mind to jump on that jet with that very handsome doctor, go to paris and never look back.

Ms. Abbott: No. You can’t do that.

Belle: I don’t know why not.

Ms. Abbott: I’ll tell you why. Because you’re gonna find yourself in a situation that you can’t flirt yourself out of.

Belle: Huh! And what are they gonna do? They’re gonna commit me just because I couldn’t get one silly story straight?

Ms. Abbott: This wasn’t just one story. They’re building a case against us. You were being tested. And you failed.

Belle: Says you. You forget. I have a plan.

Ms. Abbott: Dating the doctor is not a plan.

Belle: Neither’s killing tucker.

Ms. Abbott: I see what you’re doing. You just want an excuse to party. Guess what? It’s over now.

Belle: Well, I got news for you. I’m a lover. Not a fighter. And I’m not gonna stand by and let you ruin our lives.

[ Chuckles ]

Ashley: It always comes back to me. I have to do everything on my own. I’m the only one that knows how to get things done.

[ Sighs ] Hmm.

[ Door opens ]

Nikki: Ah. Uh. No!

Jack: Nikki?

Nikki: No!

Jack: Nikki?

Nikki: Go away!

Jack: Come, nikki,

Nikki: No, go, get out!

Jack: Let me in, nikki! Nikki!

Nikki: Go away, jack!

Jack: I’m not going anywhere. Let me in!

Nikki: Go away.

Jack: Nikki, don’t make me do this.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

thanks for coming by. All right, my man. Okay, so are we talking about aurora’s potential move into wellness and fitness? Oh, it’s not potential anymore. We’re doing it. Yep. My people ran the numbers. We’re doing a dual launch — an online lifestyle website. We’re doing brick and mortar. The flagship gym is gonna be right here in port charles. It’s gonna be huge. All we need is somebody to run the division. So are you interested? I need you to get a cbc. Can you also get a cmp and a ct scan? Excuse me. Can I leave this for nurse baldwin? She’s expecting it. I’ll be sure she gets it. Thank you. Aiden. Weren’t you gonna say hello? Scott, you have to help us. Lucy insists on being the on-air pitchwoman for deception. Ah, for crying out loud, maxie. You know lucy. She gets one whiff of fame, and she’s off to the races. There’s no stopping her. We have to because “home & heart” said they’re not gonna give us another spot if lucy insists on being on camera. Well, I can threaten to sue, but it would be a bluff. It’s their show. They can put on who they want. No, no, we do not want another lawsuit. We want to sell our products. And if we lose this opportunity, we lose exposure, which translates to lost sales. So please just talk to her. Maybe convince her we need someone else to — you would not believe all the people staring at me as I walked through the lobby. You know, it’s so gratifying. Although I am just a very humble working gal, but I have thousands of followers. And I can’t even tell you. I couldn’t be specific. As I walked through the door, I added that much…more. Hi. Did you see my post? So many likes. I rest my case. So nice. Thank you guys for having me over for breakfast. Yeah. I’m so surprised the little one is so quiet. It was practically kicking field goals yesterday. Field goals? Sorry we missed it. Yeah. Me too. He or she is probably just… well, sleeping now ’cause they tired themselves out. Mm. Yeah. Are you? Sleeping, that is? Yeah. Usually, I manage about six or seven hours a night. Never less than five. Why? Well, molly mentioned you stopped by pretty late the other night. After A…fight.

[ Knocking ] May I help you? Yes. I’m sorry to just show up in your doorway, but your assistant wasn’t at her desk. Oh, if this is about the editorial… no. No. I’m natalia ramirez. I’m alison’s mom, kristina’s friend. Ah. Yes, of course. Come on in. I’m sorry. I know you’re a busy woman. As am I. I just thought that it was time that we met. Absolutely. Nice to meet you. I’ve heard a lot about you. Nice to meet you. Yeah, I’m sure you have. Probably not all of it good. Am I right?

Kristina and i had a — had a bumpy start because when I first met her, she was in alison’s bed, which was a surprise, as you can imagine, and I had no idea. That they were together? No, no clue to the nature of their attachment. I understand that blaze hadn’t come out to you yet, and I’m hoping it wasn’t too much of a surprise. Please. Well, ms. Davis… uh, call me alexis. Oh. Great. Thank you. Please call me natalia. So… mm. Oh, you know, I had the pleasure of meeting kristina’s father. You met sonny? Ah. He didn’t tell me. Mm-hmm. Yeah. And from what he said, it sounded like you two have a really good relationship. Did he say that? Oh. And I know kristina’s really close to her dad. She is, very close. Kristina loves her family. Well, that’s obvious. Especially since she’s carrying her sister’s baby. Tj, I told you kristina came over around midnight. She just wanted to talk. Yeah, I was pretty worked up, which I know isn’t good for the baby, and just needed some sister time. No one calms me down like molly. These hormones are no joke. And as for the fight, josslyn apologized and we worked things out. Yeah. Mind if I ask what the argument was about? Just josslyn being josslyn, you know? Complaining about my dad. Did sonny do something we’re all gonna hear about? No. No, nothing like that. No, no, no. It’s just, ever since carly and my dad broke up, josslyn totally turned on my dad, and she’s always saying negative things about my dad, whether they’re true or not. In this instance, though, it turned out to be true. I’m sorry. But, you know, parents are human. Sometimes they disappoint us. Family rifts are difficult. It’s one more reason to be careful. Careful? About keeping you safe. Even if that means keeping you away from that side of your family. I dropped off the cupcakes you wanted for amy’s birthday. Oh, thank you. Everyone is going to love them. What do I owe you? We can settle at home. My free period’s almost over. I need to head back to school. Tell amy “happy birthday.” Um [Chuckles] Are you forgetting something? Am I? Uh, can you give your mom a hug? Mm. Wait. What is this? Why is there paint on your backpack? That’s why I wanted you from the very beginning. You’ve got experience in management. You’ve got incredible talent for leadership. You’ve got practical knowledge in the fitness industry. You’d be able to tailor everything to meet our customers. I really hope that you consider being on board. This is? Well, that’s the official offer. Your proposed salary, stock options, benefits, a whole slew of perks, and, of course, your stake in the company. Just take a look and let me know what you think. I’ll do that. Drew, you know this is gonna be a huge change to my life. I get that. It’s a huge change for aurora, too. That’s why I want you at the helm. There is nobody that I trust more than you to take charge. Nina: I completely agree with that. Take charge of what?

Oh, right, that happened in art class. I wasn’t looking where I put my backpack. Maybe it’ll wash out. Well, maybe, but that’s a lot of paint, aiden. Or I can just switch to one of cam’s old backpacks. He left, like, six of them. And last week, you came home with paint in your hair. Mom, it’s art class. There’s a lot of paint. I [Sighs] I got to go.

[ Breathes deeply ] Rumor has it that aiden made cupcakes for amy’s birthday. Yeah. Please don’t tell me they’re just for nurses, only because I want one. I know what an excellent baker your son is. Yes, he is. Alison told me about kristina’s pregnancy. It is a brave new world out there, isn’t it? Yes, it is. It continues to be. My daughter molly was having fertility problems. Oh. Really struggling to have a family, and kristina wanted to help her out. They love each other, and I’m very proud of them. Yeah, of course, you’d be. But you know that their choices present some complications for kristina and alison. Oh. How so? Well, pregnancy in and of itself is a complication. It’s a disruption in a woman’s life, in a couple’s life. And that’s under the happiest of circumstances. I was under the impression that blaze was nothing but supportive. Oh, yeah, she is, of course. That’s my allie. But there’s also public perception to consider. Natalia… I am very happy to meet you, and I’m so glad that you came by, but I can see that this might be more than a meet and greet. So if there is something on your mind, please feel free to share that. Good. I’m really glad that you are open to an honest discussion because I’m concerned for my daughter. She thinks she’s entitled to a private life, but as blaze, that can’t happen. Yeah, the cost of fame. Your point being? Two women seen out together, one of them pregnant. People are bound to ask whose baby it is, and most people are just gonna assume that it’s theirs. I’m not sure why that would be anyone else’s business.

[ Sighs ] Alexis, you run a newspaper. You have a gossip column. If the girls are out and somebody shoots a picture of them together and posts it, I mean, you know more than anybody that one photo can change somebody’s life for better or for worse. If you’re referring to my father, I have no intention of staying away from him. I love him very much, and he always has my support. Okay, I understand that, but I also know that my uncle curtis was just shot from simply being in the same vicinity as sonny. So all I’m suggesting is that you keep some distance during the pregnancy. I’ve made it crystal clear that this baby’s well-being is my top priority, tj. You have. And we appreciate that. I’ve been eating healthy. I’ve been taking my vitamins. I’m staying hydrated. I’m going to all of my doctor’s appointments. I’ve even paused working at the corinthos-davis center for this pregnancy. I am taking extremely good care of myself. And seeing my friends and my family, that’s included in that. I don’t think separating myself from them is necessary or healthy. If you’ll excuse me, I have a full day ahead of me. No, kristina, please don’t go. No, really, I should — I should get going because I would hate to have to rush or get home past my bedtime. You’ve barely touched your breakfast. I know how to feed myself. I do manage a restaurant. I love you. Really, tj? What was that all about? Curtis and I were discussing an upcoming project, nina. Does that mean that you’d be joining the aurora family? I’m working on it. Yeah, we just started discussing all the details. You see, that’s great. As you know, you just don’t jump on the first offer. Drew is a very smooth negotiator. If you shake on anything, make sure you count your fingers afterwards. I haven’t heard you complaining.

[ Sighs, chuckles ]

[ Breathing heavily ]

[ Sighs ] Well, you drive a hard bargain, drew. I’m just giving my good friend some sound advice. Curtis, before you get in bed with drew… …make sure you know what you’re getting into. And so what are you doing here? Oh, well, I came to talk to maxie. Really? Maxie, huh?

[ Whispering ] You know, you don’t need an excuse if you really just want to see me.

[ Normal voice ] I’ll tell you what. Why don’t we go to my office, and we can watch a replay of my segment on “home & heart”? Um, I-I don’t think that’s a good idea. No, it’s a great idea. I know. No. I know I did really well. I did. It’s just that I thought maybe I could take notes on my performance, hone my craft a little bit, you know? There’s always room for improvement. I’ve been reading up on marilyn monroe. She studied with lee strasberg. That method acting technique says you should infuse your own experiences, really, to make the audience feel what you’re — okay, lucy? The pitchwoman for deception is not supposed to be acting. They’re supposed to be selling. And they do that by projecting sincerity and approachability. The audience needs to feel like this person is a friend whose recommendations they trust so when the pitchwoman says, “deception’s disruptor nourishing cream really refreshens your complexion,” the audience believes them. And they buy the product. Right. But the first thing the pitchwoman has to do is actually mention the product! I agree. Of course. That’s why I still think that my name should be in the title for our new skin care line. Like lucy’s luminous skin serum. Or lucy’s luminous luscious lotion. Which do you like? I actually can’T. Please stop this madness and just tell her. What? Tell me what? Uh, lucy… um, your appearance on the “home & heart” show… …it was a disaster.

[ Gasps ]

Disaster?! I was an unqualified success. It was a dumpster fire. Maxie, go easy on her. Someone has to tell her the truth.

[ Sighs ] The tru– the truth?! The truth is, is I completely crushed it. And — and wait, I have all the comments right here to prove it. Lucy, you talked about yourself on live tv for a solid hour. You recapped your greatest successes, real and imaginary. You barely mentioned our product or deception. You were clearly there to sell yourself. I am deception. I created deception, and deception’s my baby. And our audience knows that. Okay, yes, you have a following, but that does not automatically translate to sales. You were there to introduce our new face cream, not inflate your own ego.

[ Gasps ] That’s just rude. No, rude was how you were constantly trying to one-up haven. That’s because of haven! She is jealous of me, and she can’t stand the competition. Haven calls the shots. She wants sales, not self-promotion. Exactly. And the bottom line is, haven is a businesswoman, and she will forget all the envy and anything about me because the sales are skyrocketing, and it’s because of me. What are you doing? Tell her. Lucy, about those skyrocketing sales, okay? They are skyrocketing because of me because the numbers do not lie. You’re right — the sales are great. But they’re not because of you. Drew, you have given me a lot to think about. So, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll get right to it. I’ll look forward to hearing from you. Yeah. I’ll be in touch. Okay. Meanwhile… you two play nice. Nice to see you. Curtis is my friend. Mine, too. Yeah. So you say. He’s just getting back on his feet. I do not want you to take advantage of him. I’m not taking advantage of him. I’m offering him an opportunity that benefits both of us. It’s a wonder how you can keep all these plates spinning in the air without dropping one of them. I guess it’s just a talent of mine. Now, nina, what did you want to see me about? My daughter. I didn’t get a chance to ask why michael and willow were in your office yesterday before that…lapse of sanity overtook us again. “Lapse of sanity”? Is that what we’re calling it? Drew, I really want to know — why was willow here? Elizabeth. Is everything okay? I’m not sure. Aiden had pink paint on his backpack. He said he’d just set it down in the wrong place, but it looked like somebody deliberately did it to him. And last week, he came home with paint in his hair. It wasn’t a lot, but it definitely looked like somebody had flicked a paintbrush at him on purpose.

[ Groans ] And you’re worried about bullying. Well, yeah. I mean, it’s happened before when he was younger. So the thought’s definitely crossed my mind. But whatever is happening, he seems to want to just handle it himself. Yeah, but sometimes our kids think that they can handle it themselves, but they can’t really. I know, but I don’t want to hover. I know. Yeah. I get that. I hate that term — “helicopter mom.” Mm. It makes you feel like you’re second-guessing yourself when you’re concerned or involved in your children’s lives. There’s being concerned, and then there’s wanting to control your son’s life, and I just — I don’t know where this falls on the spectrum. Maybe you could chat with his counselor. Talk to his teachers, see what they know, what they don’t know. They see so much more than we do sometimes. At the end of the day, we just want what’s best for our kids, right? Moll. Moll. Come on. Talk to me. Trust me, you do not want to hear what I am thinking right now. Okay. Look, I get that you’re angry. No, I’m frustrated and disappointed, and I cannot for the life of me understand what you thought you were doing coming for kristina like that. I was thinking of our baby’s well-being. And kristina’s, too. Look, I commend her for living a healthy lifestyle and following the guidelines, but is it not common sense to want to stay out of the line of fire? Believe me, I have no illusions about sonny, but he is highly unlikely to put his pregnant daughter at risk. Tell that to my uncle curtis. Things happen. Okay. But let’s have a sense of proportion. We cannot ask my sister to stay away from her father. Yeah, well, I just did. Oh, and you saw how well that went. I expected pushback, molly, and I’m not sorry that I tried, and that’s not gonna stop me from speaking my mind to the woman carrying our child, even if she’s the daughter of a dangerous man. As a now-responsible journalist, I don’t really approve of policing social media sites. I mean, I think people have the right to think or say whatever they want, regardless of how despicable or ridiculous it is, as long as it’s within the law. That’s commendable — as a journalist. What about as a mother? Well, I would hate to see kristina or blaze dragged through the mud. I mean, that would be painful to see. On the other hand, i didn’t raise a shrinking violet, and I’m pretty certain you didn’t either. So I’m confident that they’d be able to weather whatever came at them. Well, that’s very supportive and sane… albeit a little idealistic, because I’m just more of a pragmatist, and I can’t help but recognize that the fallout for alison would be a lot different than for kristina. Hmm. How so? Isn’t it obvious? Alison is a star with a huge fan base and following, and kristina is — is a bartender.

If you have an issue with blaze’s public persona, then that is something you should probably take up with your daughter. I don’t really see how I can help you. Please, please, don’t misunderstand. I’m not disparaging kristina in any way. Natalia… I want to thank you so much for coming by, but I run a newspaper here and I’m getting a lot of calls coming in while we’re having this conversation. You never know what it’s gonna be breaking news. Of course. Again, thank you so much. I appreciate you stopping by. Well, I’m really glad we got a chance to finally meet and… yes. It’s always good to put a face to the person. Yeah. Well, have a nice day. Yeah. Diane, how dare you not be there when I need to vent? I just met blaze’s mother. And it wasn’t pretty. Kristina is doing something incredibly generous for us. She’s giving up nine months of her life to give us a child. The least we can do is not police her every move. I don’t like how you’re making me out to be some kind of control freak. Oh, what else would you call the constant questioning about what she eats, how much she’s sleeping, whether she can see her father until after her delivery date? Fine. If wanting the best for our baby makes me a control freak, then I will wear that as a badge of pride, molly. Great. Be proud of yourself. Just lay off kristina. Be proud of myself? I don’t think that it is unreasonable to want her to stay physically safe. It is if you drive her away. Then that’s on her. That’s not on me. Look, look, I understand that kristina’s hormonal, but taking off in a huff just because we’re asking questions, molly… I’m a doctor. Yes, but you’re not her doctor. You’re not even the baby’s doctor. If there were concerns, dr. Navarro would have raised them, but she hasn’T. Dr. Navarro is only evaluating kristina based on what she sees in front of her. She’s not factoring in her connection to sonny. And that’s a good thing because kristina has somewhere that she can feel safe and not judged. I’m not judging her. Aren’t you?

[ Sighs ] We’re supposed to be in this together. All three of us. We should have some say in how she is living her life. It’s our baby. I know this. But it is kristina’s life. We cannot monitor her every move. Right. Because she’s your sister. If we’d gone with a surrogate, in a few months from now, we’d have our baby with no strings attached, but now we — mm! No, go on. Say it. Now we’ll never get rid of her?

I love you hey. Not that I’m complaining — mwah — but why did I have to drop everything to come meet you here? I mean, all your text said was, “it’s nothing bad.”

[ Chuckles ] Well, you know, aside from wanting to see my beautiful wife, honey, I have a major decision, and I need you to weigh in. Okay, what kind of decision? Well, the savoy has been doing really well and I’m thinking about diversifying. Oh, like franchise or making it a brand? Yeah… the savoy is unique and I want to keep it that way. But it does involve branding. Drew and I have been talking about him wanting to move aurora into fitness and wellness. And so he’s starting a new division, and he wants me to head that division.

[ Chuckles ] I’m sorry. I guess I just wasn’t expecting anything like that. Wow. We had… yeah, preliminary meeting a few weeks ago. And he just now confirmed that they’re moving on, and they want me in charge. Babe… this is the kind of opportunity that only happens once. What do you think? Should I go for it? Okay. You want willow to go public with her medical history. I don’t know if that’s a great idea. She’d be talking about her leukemia and her lifesaving transplant. That could help a lot of people. And aurora is involved with this why? Wait, you think I’m making money off of this? You’re wrong. No, I’m working with a nonprofit who finds donor matches for stem cells and bone marrow. Willow’s story is so inspirational. She’d make such a great spokesperson. She could jump-start the whole project. And you presented all of this to willow like that? Absolutely. And I made it very clear that ultimately the decision’s up to her. Okay, I can’t ask for more than that. Thank you. By the way, I have rescheduled my interview with congressman mcconkey for this afternoon if you’re still interested in tagging along. I am. And not as your chauffeur. I’d like to meet him, and I’d like to have the chance to talk to him. That’s what I’m offering. And why so accommodating all of a sudden? What’s in it for you, nina?

I appreciate you, I mean, for including me. Um, but I’m not sure. You know, the savoy was your dream. But you seem really excited about this new endeavor. So I don’t really know if i should influence you either way. Honey, I’d still love your opinion. Okay. Well, you’re just now finally recovering, right? You’re literally getting back on your feet. And between the club and aurora, I just think you’re taking on way too much way too soon. Honey, the club doesn’t need my full-time attention anymore. My club, the savoy, it survived for months after I was shot and in recovery. I’m lucky to have great staff. N’neka is an absolute rock star. And I’ve been getting great help from my dad, chatting it up with the crowd and the musicians. Yeah… you know how much he loves that. Yeah. That’s what I’m saying. That’s kind of my point. The savoy, that was your dream, and you feel comfortable leaving it in other people’s hands? Well, honey, it’s not like I’m never gonna step foot in that place again. But you’ll have to split your time between the club and aurora. Okay. I will build time in my schedule to make sure that the savoy remains on track. You think selina wu is gonna respect your schedule? Because I think that she still wants to take the savoy. And what if she uses your absence to make her move? My social media blew up after I was on “h&H.” Blew up. Okay. Well, cyber buddies, and heart emojis don’t translate into cold, hard cash. And speaking of cold, hard cash, when you were on camera, we were way under our minimum of 300 units per minute. But as soon as sasha stepped in, we were hitting 650 per minute and on our way to selling out. Mm. Well, that’s because I laid the foundation, and my audience just waited until I was off the screen to start buying. That doesn’t make any sense. Why would your fans wait until you were finished to buy the product? Obviously, because they were enthralled, spellbound by my narrative. I mean, it’s a pretty incredible story, my long, hard road to my success. They listened. Okay. All right. Let’s say there are 1,000 diehard lucy fans who were hanging on your every word. There were 10,000 audience members who were waiting to change the channel until sasha stepped in and saved your bacon. Oh! So you’re giving sasha credit for all my sales?! They were my sales. Tell her. Tell her. Tell her. They were my sales. It was me. Tell her! Uh, humma, humma, humma, lucy. Don’t do that! Don’t “humma, humma, lucy” nothing! Listen to me. You were there. You felt the positive energy in the room. I had all those people eating out of the palm of my hand. They couldn’t wait — couldn’t wait to buy. Well, actually, lucy, they did wait. They waited until sasha showed up. Moll… I would never want to get rid of kristina. That is impossible. That’s your sister. My only problem is all the baggage that comes with her. Look, believe it or not, I understand your concerns. Sonny being kristina’s father and the fact that I might end up prosecuting him — do you know how much I am dreading that possibility? Probably as much as I dread the idea of our child’s biological grandfather being a mob boss.

[ Sighs ] But it’s not all about sonny. I have my concerns with kristina, too. Look, you know I had my hesitations at first. But kristina and i came to an understanding, and I thought that you did, too. That’s why we accepted her offer to be our surrogate, and she genuinely wants to help. She has said from the very beginning that she will be aunt kristina to our child, the same way that she is to danny and scout. But she didn’t carry and give birth to danny and scout. There’s a big difference. How long before she’s second-guessing us, judging our parenting styles, inserting herself into our lives, molly? Kristina has her own life. She has two jobs and a new girlfriend. Mm-hmm. You don’t think that can change with her being pregnant? Okay, of course she will reach a point when she’s go to slow down and… I am talking about her, molly. Everyone, everyone keeps telling me what a beautiful gift it is that kristina is giving us, but that gift comes with a cost. Kristina is more than a surrogate. She is biologically and emotionally invested. Just tell me… you can see how potentially difficult this is. I understand. But I am still choosing to be hopeful. I have seen kristina really come into her own these last few years. She’s changed, tj. For the better. I guess we’ll see. We have no choice at this point.

[ Door opens, footsteps approaching ] Mom. Hi. What brings you here? Um, to see my mom. Oh. Oh, oh, oh, oh. What’s going on here? Are you okay? Huh? I just — I don’t know. I came from molly and tj’s place, and apparently, I’m doing this entire pregnancy wrong. I mean, the wrong diet, the wrong sleep schedule, the wrong — the wrong everything. Oh, honey, it can’t be that bad. No, it is that bad. It’s worse, actually. They think that dad is a physical danger, and they want me to keep my distance from him. I’m sorry, but I’m not gonna do that. I’m not gonna abandon my dad, especially not now. Especially when he needs me. He is pushing everyone away from him. Everyone except for ava… okay. …Who is camped out in his living room. Got it. And [Groans] Breathe. Inhale.

[ Breathes deeply ] Good. All right. Have a seat.

[ Groans ] You’re going through a lot, all right, internally, externally. The hormones are working, they’re working for the baby, and they’re working for your hair, I might add, right? And you’re emotional. Tj and molly are also emotional. Okay? I’m sure you meant well. Would you like me to talk to them? Yes, I would. I mean, I — oh! Oh! Oh. Oh! Guess who just woke up. The baby. Ohh! This baby can really stretch out, and then pow! That’s what they do. Oh, as I’ve heard. Mm. My baby has a real kick.

[ Breathes sharply ] Oooh!

Whoa! Whoa. See? You weren’t kidding. Wow. It’s funny. It was so nice when it was the little butterfly flutters. Now it’s a totally different ball game. More like a soccer game. Mm-hmm. You know, you were just like that. You kicked so hard. I thought you were gonna leave bruises. Really? Maybe the baby takes after me. It’s a little late for buyer’s remorse. We made the decision to trust my sister, and I, for one, intend to do that. I’ve got to go. I’ve got a deposition. Molly, come here. I don’t want to fight. Okay, it’s just you and me, right? I want this to be the best thing that has ever happened to us. Me too. You and me, and baby makes three, right? If you want one of the cupcakes, you’d better get to the break room because they’re going fast. And amy said to be sure and thank your son. What a sweetheart. Aww. Thanks. I will. Mm-hmm.

[ Sighs ] Hi. Um, may I have the counselor’s office, please? This is aiden webber’s mom. I need to make an appointment. Lucy, I’m sorry, but the numbers don’t lie. Lucy, I know you give deception your all. Maybe at times too much of your all. But I’m not trying to minimize your commitment to deception or your accomplishments. I’m just trying to remind you that deception is not only yours. It’s not only mine, or brook lynn’s, or sasha’s, or tracy’s, for that matter. We’re all rooting for it to succeed, but in order to gain success, we have to sell, and you are the wrong salesperson. Okay. Okay. Okay. Um, but what you’re forgetting is, we don’t have sasha, and blaze’s uber-controlling mommy won’t let blaze pitch. Right. So I’m all we’ve got. There is nobody else. Well, there is one other person. There’ll be no more threats from selina wu. I got it handled. Well, I guess… the only real decision now is where you’re gonna split your time and your focus. Because this is gonna be a major project. No question. And require travel. Honey, I’m in charge. I can set my own schedule.

[ Sighs ] Are there any more objections? There’s just one that I can think of. Baby, I’m gonna miss you. I really enjoyed you being home, you know? Having you all to myself. And I don’t want to be away too often or too far from you, either. But, baby, I believe in this project. I know — I know I can make it happen. And in the process build something lasting that I — that I can be proud of. How could I say no to that? It looks like you’ve made your decision. Let’s just say there’s a little something in it for everybody. You get access to congressman mcconkey, and I get access to my daughter. I see. Quid pro quo. You give something to get something. Makes more sense than us trying to sabotage each other. So you want to cooperate. But cooperation takes trust. Well, I trust you to see your advantage in all of this. I can definitely see that.

[ Cellphone rings ] Curtis. Drew. I hope I’m not interrupting. Absolutely not. I’ve always got time for you. Thanks, man. Look, I, um — I reviewed your offer. And? Are we doing this? I’m in.
