Victoria: That was a wonderful dinner. Thank you.

Victor: Wasn’t it?

Victoria: Yes, it was.

Victor: I think we should do it more often, my darling. I think your mother might enjoy it.

Victoria: Yeah. She wouldn’t enjoy us talking business at the table, though.

Victor: Well, that’s true. However, if she had known we were talking about taking over tucker mccall’s company, I think she would have enjoyed it indeed.

Victoria: Well, everything seems to be coming together. We have the financing placed to buy up his debt. But I think we need to move quickly before the competitors get the same idea.

Victor: Oh, especially now that the rumor’s floating around about tucker mccall’s dire financial straits.

Victoria: I’m worried. I am worried about devon stepping in, bailing him out.

Victor: Ah, but to be frank with you, I think that’s too big of a move for devon. Besides, he seems to be fighting with jill and her sister.

Victoria: Maybe, but I don’t want to give him the chance. I think we need to move quickly. How do we gain total control and take over his debt?

Victor: Well, I think we should tell him it’s inevitable and that he should join us rather than spend his time fighting us every step of the way.

Victoria: We need to force him to sell us an ownership stake at a cut rate. I think that would be best for everyone.

Victor: Besides, it would piss him off to the core.

Audra: Where are you?

Tucker: Waiting for someone?

Audra: I am, but I don’t think brad pitt’s going to make it. So you’ll have to do.

Tucker: Well, look at us. Here we are out in public. Does it feel strange seeing me this way after months of pretending I don’t exist?

Audra: Doesn’t feel stranger than most of our interactions.

Tucker: She’s feeling saucy tonight.

Audra: You know, this actually feels nice. Just two friends having dinner. This is what normal people do.

Tucker: Oh, if you say so. I wouldn’t know.

Audra: [ Chuckles ]

Tucker: God, you’re beautiful. It’s lovely to see you. I… I always find our interactions very stimulating.

Audra: Well, what can I say? I am utterly incapable of being boring.

Tucker: You are. You are. Although I just can’t help but be a bit suspicious.

Audra: Of?

Tucker: Your motives. I mean, why do you want to reconnect as friends?

Audra: Do I need a motive?

Tucker: Yes, you do. Yes, you do. Why don’t we hypothesize for a second? You expressed interest earlier in the rumor of my enormous debt. But you’re working for newman media. That information couldn’t possibly be of any use to them. Why would nate care about how much money I owe and to whom? But newman enterprises, victor and victoria, they would care. So I’m just wondering if maybe this reunion is really about gathering information for them.

Kyle: There you are.

Summer: Here I am.

Kyle: You blew out the office so abruptly, we didn’t get a chance to talk about it.

Summer: Did it occur to you that I didn’t want to speak with you?

Kyle: We need to work this out.

Summer: You mean the way you purposely deceived me for weeks? Did I get that right? Is that the “this” you’re referring to?

Kyle: It’s complicated.

Summer: Explain it to me.

Kyle: Right here?

Summer: Yeah. You want to talk? Let’s talk.

Ashley: Hello? I’m home. Anybody here? Hello?

Diane: Just me.

Ashley: Oh. Visiting harrison, I hope.

Diane: No, I’m meeting jack. We’re going out to dinner. And, you know, you should probably get used to —

Jack: Ash.

Ashley: Hi.

Jack: Hi. Welcome home. I didn’t know you were coming in this evening. What — how was paris?

Ashley: I had fun. What do I have to get used to?

Diane: Oh, the fact that we’re together again in every way. I have moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.

Jack: What does that look mean?

Ashley: Okay. Well, apparently you’ve abandoned your core principles because you’re sleeping with a scam artist, so there’s that.

Jack: Wow, just off the plane, already with the doom and gloom. I’m sorry you can’t be happy for me. Happy for us.

Diane: Would you prefer some privacy? I mean, I could excuse myself.

Jack: No.

Ashley: Definitely.

Diane: I just thought it might be easier.

Jack: It’s all right, unless you don’t want to be here. Look, I think this affects you, too. I think you should hear what’s being said.

Diane: Well, I’m not sure I want to hear it, but, um, okay, I will stay for you, jack. I was just hoping that we could find a way to meet in the middle.

Ashley: You know this doesn’t mean she’s changed, right? This is just how she operates. Doesn’t mean anything, really, that she’s saying that.

Jack: You can speak to diane directly. She’s right here.

Ashley: Okay. I have no interest in trying to meet you in the middle, diane, because I think we have very different ideas of what the middle actually is.

Diane: Possibly. But I thought if we could keep an open dialog going that maybe one day we could have a respectful relationship.

Jack: Wow, wouldn’t that be nice?

Ashley: I have no interest in building any kind of relationship with you, diane, because I don’t like you.

Jack: As disappointed as I am that you won’t bend even a little, ash, this is your problem, not ours.

Ashley: You’re making it our problem, jack, by parading whatever the hell this is under all of our noses.

Victor: You and I know that mccall will be absolutely furious. And with his back to the wall, who knows what he’ll do?

Victoria: You sound like you admire that quality.

Victor: Well, I’ve some of it myself, you know. Comes in handy sometimes.

Victoria: Do you think that tucker is going to do something illogical to try to wreck our plans?

Victor: Maybe.

Victoria: Well, then we have to try not to attract any attention, especially from him.

Victor: My suggestion is that we confront him directly. We’ll tell him that we are coming just before we make the deal. It’ll so confuse him it’ll throw him off his game.

Victoria: He might assume that it’s a bluff or a diversion, and he might drop his guard. He might focus somewhere else.

Victor: Ah. And then he’ll start scrambling, trying to find out what else we have in our arsenal. He’ll probably be stupid enough to reveal what piece he’s going to move first. Then, my darling, in good old victor newman fashion, you and I will pounce.

Tucker: So, am I right?

Audra: About what?

Tucker: You’re here to gather information for the newmans.

Audra: Honestly, tucker, getting right to the meaty stuff before I could even take a sip of my wine.

Tucker: Mm. Salud.

Audra: Salud.

Tucker: No, this is going to be a civilized conversation, right? A little wine might even help us. In vino veritas and all that.

Audra: You know, I think we know each other too well for this conversation to be anything other than civilized.

Tucker: And I will do my best to be respectful.

Audra: Mm. Really?

Tucker: Yes.

Audra: Is it respectful to ask me right out of the gate if I’m doing undercover work for the newmans?

Tucker: Absolutely. I would never put up a facade for you. Pretend that wasn’t foremost on my mind. I can tell you, though, if it were true that you are doing that, I would not be angry. Just pay me the respect that I’m paying you and don’t try to fool me. That’s all.

Audra: Mm. I can’t tell if that’s a threat or if you would be legitimately hurt by me trying to put one over on you.

Tucker: Hurt? No, I wouldn’t be hurt. I would be disappointed, though, deeply, because I think the one thing that we can count on with each other always is honesty. Yeah?

Audra: Yeah, you’re right. We do have that sort of relationship. Yeah, we can lie to anyone else within earshot. But you and me, nothing but the truth.

Tucker: [ Laughs ] So? Are you gathering information for the newmans?

Audra: I’m going to be straight with you. The newmans know about your debt. They’re planning to buy it up to give them leverage over you. Suffering from sinus congestion, especially at night?

Summer: I cannot believe that you lied to me and jack about colluding with my grandpa.

Kyle: I’m sorry. I am. I made the wrong call. I should have been honest with you when you asked me about it.

Summer: You think?

Kyle: Don’t say it like that. You sound like —

Summer: I — I sound like what, kyle? Were you just about to say that I sound like my mom?

Kyle: Okay, here’s the thing I need you to understand. My deal with victor, I stand behind it.

Summer: Are you serious?

Kyle: No harm was inflicted on jabot because of the information I gave to victor. I would never let that happen.

Summer: You have no idea what my grandpa could have done. I love him, but he is crafty and unpredictable.

Kyle: It worked out.

Summer: No, you got lucky. Adam left of his own accord. That is the only thing that bailed you out.

Kyle: And getting adam out of jabot was all I wanted.

Summer: Exactly. You were so focused on what you wanted that you didn’t think about any of the consequences.

Kyle: Dad called me out on that, too. But jabot is better off without adam, and I know you feel the same way. You never liked working with him. And the kicker, apparently adam didn’t even like being here.

Summer: You’re rationalizing. And you are totally missing the point.

Kyle: Then tell me, what is the point?

Summer: This isn’t about the company, kyle. This isn’t about adam or my grandpa. This is about us.

Kyle: I understand that. I’m being truthful now.

Summer: It’s a little late for that, isn’t it? I begged you not to pursue this. I told you that I didn’t want any more family drama in our lives. We’ve had enough of that. And you did it anyway. What does that say about us? About our marriage? You completely violated my trust.

Jack: There is no us here. You can’t presume to speak for anyone else. You are the only one being openly hostile and antagonistic toward diane.

Ashley: Just because they haven’t voiced an opinion doesn’t mean they don’t have one. I’m sure I can find many, many people who aren’t exactly thrilled about this.

Jack: They may have their concerns, but everyone else is trying to keep an open mind. Everyone else trusts me to do what’s right in my own life.

Ashley: I don’t feel that way. I don’t think you know what you’re doing. And I have the need to protect you because I can’t ignore what’s right in front of my face, jack.

Jack: I would argue that you are being blinded by your hatred and pessimism. There is no room for redemption, no room for change. And believe me, it is your truculence that has brought us to this golden family moment. Welcome home, sis.

Ashley: Okay. I love you. I love you. And I want what’s best for you. This isn’t it, jack.

Jack: In your opinion.

Ashley: Do you know what i see when I see her? When I see diane, I see nothing but pain and endless trouble. And not just from the past, but from the present. I know you keep telling me that she’s changed. But every corner we turn, there’s another surprise. Where, yet again, she’s conveniently forgotten to tell us.

Jack: Diane and I have addressed this.

Diane: We have.

Jack: And I am confident that those surprises are behind us. We are ready to move forward together.

Ashley: You’re going to regret this. Trust me. You’re just a pawn in whatever game she’s playing.

Jack: Wow. With all the blessings you have been given, you are going to deny me this little bit of happiness.

Ashley: Jack, delusion is not happiness.

Jack: Oh, come on.

Ashley: If I kept falling for tucker’s B.S., Would you approve of that? Would you?

Jack: Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

Ashley: Okay, well, that’s what I see when I see the two of you. I’m embarrassed for you.

Jack: Enough. I’ve had enough. How white do you think your teeth really are?

Audra: You don’t seem surprised.

Tucker: It’s a clever move on their part. Just the other day, nick and victoria were taunting me about my company being in trouble.

[ Chuckles ] And since newman wasn’t able to acquire chancellor-winters, it makes sense that they would come after me.

Audra: You’re a very appealing target.

Tucker: Apparently. And of course, they couldn’t just be satisfied swooping up daniel romalotti’s gaming platform. Although I’m sure that was the spark of the idea. “Why just take that project from tucker? Why don’t we take everything from him?” It’s very victor. And his daughter’s even worse now. Of course, nick and nikki will just stand behind them and nod.

Audra: Yeah, that’s the impression I got. There doesn’t seem to be any real dissension among the ranks.

Tucker: Never. That’s another newman trait. Everybody standing in line in lockstep. So how much time do I have?

Audra: I’m not privy to the specifics, but you and I both know this is not something they’re going to put on the back burner.

Tucker: Well, I do appreciate you telling me this, although I can’t help but wonder why. Are you unhappy at newman media or you just missed me? Or are you an agent of chaos who really enjoys playing one side against the other and watching the fallout?

Audra: I’ll let you think whatever you like.

Tucker: Ah, yes. Brava. Exactly what I would do. Although now that it’s being done to me, I’m a little annoyed by it.

Audra: So now that you know what’s coming next, what are you going to do about it?

Victoria: The question is, how do we get tucker this information so that it looks natural, like he uncovered it himself?

Victor: Simpler the better. I mean it. Let’s go after him directly. But that is really not all I want to discuss.

Victoria: You want to talk about something else?

Victor: Mm-hmm. You know how much my grandchildren mean to me?

Victoria: Well, yes, of course I do.

Victor: What’s going on with johnny and chelsea?

Victoria: Daddy, I’m very protective of johnny when it comes to his biological mother. But he seems very at ease with her these days. And the idea of him having a brother in connor, I think he likes it.

Victor: And how are you, sweetheart?

Victoria: Me?

Victor: Yeah.

Victoria: I’m fine. Have I given you any reason to worry?

Victor: No, no, no, no, no. No. I just want you to remember how important family is and how important it is to maintain that connection.

Victoria: Oh. We’re not talking about my family right now, are we? We’re talking, actually, about your family. More specifically, you’d like to discuss adam.

Jack: This conversation is over.

Ashley: And yet again, nothing’s been resolved.

Jack: I am resolved that we are done here. You offered nothing to this conversation, nothing concrete, nothing helpful, no remedies, just negativity. As far as I’m concerned, you can take that and go right back out the door. And don’t come back until you’re ready to have a meaningful conversation.

Ashley: Wait one second. So this is really becoming a thing for you where you think you can kick me out of the family home?

Jack: I guess so.

Ashley: We’ve talked about this, jack. You can’t do it. This is our home, not just yours.

Jack: How much?

Ashley: How much what?

Jack: How much is it going to cost me to buy you out of this house? If you can’t respect me, if you can’t respect the decisions I make, living together is going to be untenable. So how much is it going to cost to get you out of this house?

Ashley: Yeah, that’s going to happen. When hell freezes over.

[ Door slams ]

Jack: [ Breathing heavily ] Did you know, some ordinary cold medicines can raise your blood pressure?

Jack: I’m sorry you had to overhear that.

Diane: Oh, no need to apologize. I feel like I’m partly to blame.

Jack: That’s nonsense.

Diane: No, I might have instigated the argument. Ashley was so abrasive and condescending when she came in. And then I might have gloated a little bit when I said that we were back together. But I should have exercised more restraint.

Jack: That is very generous of you to say that, but I have a feeling we’re in for a few more of those arguments in our future.

Diane: I can handle ashley’s disdain for me, but what really bothers me is what this is doing to you. You and your sister are so close, and I’m just worried that our relationship is driving a wedge between the two of you.

Jack: Ashley and I will be fine. Tempers got the best of us today, and we have overcome far worse than this. We’ll be fine. We just need some time.

Diane: Well, I’m — I’m glad you feel that way. And it gives me hope that everything will work out. And I won’t be a disruption to your family life.

Jack: You disrupt all you want. My family will be fine. It is solid.

Diane: Wow. This has been quite a day. Hey, how did things go with kyle when I left the office? Did he have an explanation for the messages from victor?

Jack: He did. It was not what I wanted to hear.

Kyle: I am so sorry, summer. I know I broke our trust, and it was weighing on me the whole time. I never meant to hurt you. And today I was going to explain myself in private, but I didn’t get the chance to. So what can I do to make this up to you?

Summer: You really don’t get it, do you? This isn’t a “buy me flowers and everything’s okay” type of situation. Kyle, for the last several months, I have kept telling you that I don’t want any secrets or lies in our life together.

Kyle: You were talking about my mom.

Summer: Yeah, and you’ve just proved to me that you’re capable of the same things as diane.

Kyle: Oh, don’t compare me to my mother.

Summer: Why not? You just compared me to mine.

Kyle: Okay, you’re right. I’m sorry. Can we just go home?

Summer: Kyle, you can’t just toss out a quick apology and expect forgiveness. That’s not the way that this works.

Tucker: I actually don’t know what I’m going to do next.

Audra: Really? Or is it that you just don’t want to tell me?

Tucker: Well, if that were the case, would you blame me? For all I know, you shared that information for the sole purpose of finding out what I’d do next.

Audra: I thought we were always honest with each other. I scratched your back. Don’t you want to scratch mine?

Tucker: Wasn’t this supposed to be a platonic dinner? That sounded a little more than platonic.

Audra: Old habits.

Tucker: Mm-hmm. Well, why don’t we take this platonic conversation among two friends back to my hotel room?

Audra: Don’t forget we said we stayed friends without benefits.

Tucker: I thought that was just lip service.

Audra: [ Chuckles ] You’re right about that. But not tonight.

Tucker: Mm.

Audra: Rain check. Maybe.

Tucker: [ Chuckles ] I still have a sneaking suspicion you’re playing me.

Audra: Does that bother you?

Tucker: Are you kidding? I’m so turned on right now by it. We’ve never been on opposite sides before. It’ll take some getting used to, but it’s exhilarating knowing we’ll be banging into each other, once in a while anyway.

Audra: Well, then, this was a successful evening. Thanks for dinner.

Tucker: My pleasure. Till we meet again.

Victoria: I know you’re determined to bring adam back into the fold of the company, but, daddy, you have to be realistic.

Victor: Sweetheart, how am I being unrealistic?

Victoria: As I told you earlier, there’s no place for him at the company. At least nothing that he wouldn’t consider demeaning. Anything less than ceo, and he’s going to be so insulted.

Victor: You’re probably right. You haven’t put it together yet, have you?

Victoria: What? What am I missing?

Victor: Why the hell do you think I’m so interested in tucker mccall’s company? It’d be perfect for adam to run it.

Kyle: It is not my intention to just buy you gifts and expect forgiveness. I need to put in the work. I understand that. But I need you to understand that comparing me to my mother isn’t fair.

Summer: How is it not fair?

Kyle: This was a one-off attempt to help jabot by getting rid of adam. I felt like I had to be deceitful to execute the plan. But look, I’m not proud of it. And it’s not going to happen again because it’s not who I am.

Summer: You lied to me and you continued lying to me even after you had the opportunity to come clean. You chose. You actively chose to deceive me. That is what hurts the most.

Kyle: Look, I thought I was doing the right thing.

Summer: Did you? Because I kind of feel like if you thought that this deal was the right move, you wouldn’t have kept it a secret. No, you knew that it was wrong, and you just wanted to do it anyway.

Jack: In the end, adam was very honest and agreeable.

Diane: So he just left?

Jack: Yeah. He’s no longer a jabot employee.

Diane: Gosh, I wouldn’t have expected him to give up the job so easily.

Jack: He said it was never a perfect fit and he needed to move on. And I understood that. Kyle — kyle, on the other hand, I — I let him know how deeply disappointed I am giving company secrets to victor newman, of all people.

Diane: I’m not trying to take kyle’s side, but I’m sure he was just trying to protect you and the company.

Jack: Another person offering me protection I don’t need.

Diane: All right, well, if you can work through your issues with ashley, then I’m sure that you and kyle can get past this.

Jack: Yeah. I won’t argue with you there. I just — I hate the timing of all this. Just when we should be happy, just — I just want everyone to be in a good place all at the same time. It never works out that way. And by everyone, I mean you, me, and kyle.

Diane: Are you still worried how he feels about us?

Jack: I told you, he worries that if things fall apart for us, you will leave town.

Diane: And I’ve tried to tell him that that is not the case.

Jack: Well, we just have to continue to reassure him whenever we can.

Diane: Yeah, well, how do we do that without sounding like overbearing parents?

Jack: By example. Every day that he sees us growing closer, finding more joy in each other is another day that he doesn’t have to worry about us. He will come to understand what I know now. We’re going to get it right this time.

Diane: I love hearing you say that.

Jack: God, we have been through so much.

Diane: Yeah.

Jack: We both had to change. But you changed in the most remarkable, wonderful ways. And I am falling in love with the woman you’ve become. Probably should have said that a while ago, but it’s true. I love you. You enter a room and my — my pulse quickens. My — my heart is full. I see you with our son, with our grandson, and I think how lucky they are to have you in their lives. How grateful I am to have you in mine.

Diane: Gosh, I am a grown woman, but my heart is just going — feel that. Jack, besides being crazy about you, you are my joy. You are my safe place. You’re the proof that I’ve done something good and right in my life. I love you so much. It feels so good to be able to say that.

Jack: Stay right here. I’ll be right back.

Nate: Yeah, I still have 15, 20 minutes of work left. Yeah. I’m sorry, elena. Look, I will be home as soon as I can, okay? Don’t wait up.

Audra: I thought you might be here.

Nate: So how’d it go with tucker? Did he show up?

Audra: Oh, we had a lovely dinner and a nice bottle of wine he kept trying to get me to drink too much of.

Nate: And the business side of things? How much does he know?

Audra: We had a fruitful conversation. He’s aware that certain parties have an acute interest in his company’s financial status.

Nate: Hmm. Well, I’m sure you handled that smoothly. Downplayed it or feigned ignorance. Yeah, that would make sense.

Audra: I went a different way.

Nate: As in?

Audra: I told him the truth.

Nate: Audra.

Audra: I told him that the newmans intend to buy his debt.

Nate: Why the hell would you reveal that?

Audra: Trust me, it’s a smart move.

Nate: How could it possibly be? Huh? Now he knows exactly what we’re planning to do.

Audra: Yeah, but it sends him a clear message that newman has the upper hand. He tried not to show it, but tucker was rattled. We will be right back, everyone! <

Jack: You don’t think adam is fit to work here at jabot?

Kyle: He doesn’t belong here, dad. You know it’s true.

Jack: I know it’s true? What do you know about the truth, kyle? You have been lying to me for months.

Kyle: It’s not like that.

Jack: Then tell me how it is.

Kyle: It’s complicated.

Jack: “Thank you for your help with the adam matter”? “Stay tuned”? That doesn’t sound very complicated to me. Adam claims you have been colluding with victor. I know you insist that isn’t the case.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] You wouldn’t understand.

Jack: I want to understand. Tell me what the hell is going on!

Kyle: Okay. You want me to say it?

Jack: I want you to tell me the truth.

Kyle: Okay. The truth is, I have been working with victor to get adam out of jabot.

Summer: What do you think you’re doing?

[ Knock on door ]

Victoria: Hi.

[ Door closes ] I came by to see if you have an update on our plans regarding tucker.

Nate: Uh, yes, things are under way.

Victoria: So, you were able to lay the groundwork with audra? How did that conversation go?

Nate: Well, I am hoping to have my answer by today, if things pan out.

Victoria: You mean with audra? How? Are you testing her?

Nate: Yes, I am, in a way. Now I just have to wait and see if she passes the test.

Lily: Thank you. Look, I am so sorry it took this long to get things going, but i am very happy that jill greenlit omega sphere.

Daniel: Yeah, me too. Hopefully it’ll be worth the wait, right?

Lily: Yeah.

Daniel: I’m very excited to get started.

Lily: Yeah, I am, too. It’ll be nice to have something positive to focus on while i deal with this lawsuit with devon.

Daniel: Sorry you’ve been going through that, especially while you’ve had to be running chancellor-winters and dealing with launching this venture all at the same time.

Lily: No, it’s fine. I can handle it. Um, so, listen, I know that we want to get this started as soon as possible. Do you think that phyllis is ready to get things going?

Daniel: Yeah. Um… actually, I wanted to talk to you about her.

Lily: Oh, god. Is she up to something?

Daniel: Isn’t she always? This time she’s gone a little too far, so… I’m planning on firing her.

Phyllis: [ Exhales heavily ] Don’T.

Tucker: Don’t what?

Phyllis: Don’t look at me.

Tucker: I was just gonna say welcome home, but I don’t know how to say it in portuguese.

Phyllis: You know what? I have a lot of things I want to say to you, but to translate it would be obscene. Some people have minor joint pain plus stomach problems.

[ Scoffs ] You know, I have half a mind to tell jack what you’re up to.

Adam: Because the conversation that kyle and jack are having involves me, and i think they could use the interruption.

Summer: You going in there is only gonna make things worse. Whatever’s going on in there, they need to settle it themselves.

Adam: I promise I’m not gonna make things worse. I’m gonna put an end to it. I give you my word. And, frankly, I think you deserve to be in there.

Summer: What are you talking about?

Adam: Do you remember when i said kyle was working with victor to get me out of here? Well, it turns out to be true. Victor was working with kyle. And I’m guessing that jack just found out.

Jack: I want you to tell me every detail of this plot. What exactly did you do for victor?

Kyle: I took great pains not to do anything that would hurt the company.

Jack: Suppose you let me be the judge of that.

Kyle: Okay, I didn’t give him anything confidential, just general information about adam’s shoddy work record. That is all.

Jack: That is plenty. What’s worse than that, you lied to my face.

Kyle: Oh, I didn’t outright lie. I admitted victor approached me, and I never denied understanding his point of view in regards to adam’s place here.

Jack: You went behind my back and sabotaged my co-ceo. Do you have any idea how insulting that is for me, that you think I need you to tell me what’s happening at my company?!

Kyle: Okay, maybe — maybe i didn’t handle it in the best way, but my motives were honorable.

Jack: Bull. You have a point to make with me, you make it to my face. You don’t do victor’s bidding and then hide behind the pretense that it’s noble.

Victor: Uh, kindly send him in.

Michael: Victor.

Victor: Mr. Baldwin.

Michael: Well, I hope the fact that you summoned me here doesn’t mean something has gone wrong with our plans for mccall unlimited.

Victor: No, no, nothing has gone wrong, okay? Except a little change. I had agreed with a member of the board of directors at the bank to buy tucker’s loan at less than face value. Now victoria thinks we should buy it outright to expedite things. And I agree.

Michael: Boy, you two really want to put the screws to tucker, don’t you?

Victor: You bet.

Tucker: Looks like the jet lag has you in a foul mood.

Phyllis: No, no. You have me in a foul mood. You’re responsible for my mood. You told my son I went to portugal.

Tucker: Did you really think I was gonna keep that secret?

Phyllis: I told you to stay away from him.

Tucker: Why would I do that? I’m trying to get on his good side.

Phyllis: Okay, but you don’t care about getting on my good side, clearly.

Tucker: Oh, that’s not true, phyllis. I would prefer to be on your good side, but it seems like that ship has sailed.

Phyllis: Halfway across the world.

Tucker: All the way to portugal. So, how was the trip? How’s daniel’s partner? What’s her name — heather?

Phyllis: Go to hell.

[ Luggage rattling ]

[ Elevator doors close ]

Audra: You’re still making friends everywhere you go, i see.

Tucker: Yeah. Phyllis and I are working through some issues.

Audra: Looked like she wanted to rip your throat out.

Tucker: Yeah. But sometimes you can use someone’s anger to your advantage.

Audra: Is that so?

Tucker: Mm-hmm. On the other hand, sometimes anger on the surface can be hiding something underneath, like a [Clears throat] Spark.

Audra: We no longer have a spark. In fact, i think one of us should seriously consider moving out of the hotel so these run-ins don’t get increasingly awkward.

Daniel: [ Sighs ] I don’t know when mom’s getting back from port gonna have some unpleasantness waiting for her when she does.

Lily: Well, look, i understand why you don’t agree with what phyllis did because — trust me — I don’t, either. But are you sure you want to fire your mother?

Daniel: Look, I didn’t want to take it this far. The project hasn’t even started yet, and she just won’t listen to anything that I’ve been saying. First she goes behind my back. She’s trying to find other buyers for omega sphere. Now she tries to pull this end run around me with my own family?

Lily: No, look, I’m not happy with her. I mean, the fact that she shopped your project around when we already had a deal in place is completely out of line. So, look, whatever you want to do, I completely support your decision.

Daniel: Thank you.

Lily: Well, thank you for your loyalty.

Daniel: [ Chuckles ] Come on. I never would have made a move to leave without working things out with you first, one way or the other.

Lily: Well, I appreciate that. Are you sure that you can find a replacement for her on such short notice?

Daniel: I haven’t yet, but i will.

Lily: Well, look, I know that you wanted things to be further along by now, and I [Sighs] — I really did, too.

Daniel: I’m not complaining. Trust me. Look, I get it. I understand. Life happens. I just feel bad that you’ve had to deal with this whole mess with devon.

Lily: No, I already said I can handle it. Although I will admit there are some times that I just want to run away from it all.

Daniel: Hmm. I know you better than that. You’re a fighter. You don’t run, at least not anymore.

Lily: [ Laughs ] Oh, my gosh, we were so young and in love when we ran away. Oh, my god, I would kill mattie or charlie if they ever did that.

Daniel: How are they doing?

Lily: Um…they’re good. They’re good. I mean, I hate being away from them, but at least I know where they are and… I’m sorry. I didn’t — I didn’t mean to say it like that. I just — [ Sighs ] Listen, please do not give up hope on reuniting with lucy and heather, okay? I really do believe that time heals everything.

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Daniel: Yeah.

[ Sighs ] It’s my mother. Who says you have to spend more on skincare

Daniel: Hi, mom. What continent are you calling me from?

Phyllis: I’m back here, safe and sound. I’m sorry you had to hear about my trip through tucker. He has a big mouth.

Daniel: You know what? It doesn’t matter who told you. What matters is that you went at alL.

Phyllis: Okay, well, why would I not go? Listen. Please can I explain? Can we meet face-to-face?

Daniel: Is that why you didn’t bother to call me back when I left you an important message?

Phyllis: I wanted to give you a chance to cool down.

Daniel: No. No. You see, I think that you just didn’t want me getting in the way of you doing whatever it is that you wanted to do.

Phyllis: Please let me explain myself. Please will you meet with me?

Daniel: I would actually love to meet with you. When and where?

Kyle: Victor was not making a move against you. He just wants adam back at newman enterprises and with his family.

Jack: You know, I wouldn’t expect victor to care, but I’d like to think you — you’re a little concerned with how this affects me and jabot when another co-ceo abruptly jumps ship.

Kyle: What? I didn’t jump ship. I still have a big role in this company.

Jack: Oh, that’s right. You used to run the whole thing. But you made a choice. You decided to step away from the big job. Now stick with your decision and let me run the company! And what is victor’s next plan? Surely you don’t think he ever expected to only get information about adam’s job performance. No, he wants more than that. When you get a text from victor newman saying, “stay tuned,” believe me, there is a phase two of his plan. What is it?

Adam: Things sound pretty heated in here.

Jack: This is not a good time. We are in the middle of something.

Adam: And I know exactly what you’re in the middle of. And I’m here to help.

Nate: Audra and tucker had a falling-out. So I asked her to draw him back in so she can pass along any useful information to us.

Victoria: Do you think she’ll be able to do it?

Nate: She seemed confident. And if she can pull this off, then we’ll know we can trust her to tackle more challenging tasks.

Victoria: I’m very impressed. Good move.

Nate: Thanks for asking me to join the meeting with victor and michael yesterday, especially after michael made it clear he did not want me involved.

Victoria: It’s nothing personal. You know, him being cautious — it’s just a part of what makes him so excellent at what he does.

Nate: Mm. I understand.

Victoria: And it gave me the perfect moment to telegraph to michael and to my father that you are very much a part of the inner newman team.

Nate: We do make a good team.

Tucker: I hear what you’re saying, but genoa city is built for that kind of awkward run-in.

[ Chuckles ] I mean, if you want a decent cup of coffee, you can either drive two towns over or hit crimson lights and risk running into your least favorite person every time.

Audra: The long drive may be worth it.

Tucker: Audra… can we take a step back? I’m — I’m not leaving town, and it seems like you’re not going anywhere. So, whatever’s broken between us, can we just try to fix it?

Audra: How do you suppose we do that?

Tucker: Well, for starters, you can admit that you over-reacted earlier.

Audra: [ Scoffs ] Me?

Tucker: [ Chuckling ] Yeah. I will grant you that I was not the perfect gentleman, but I had just received some disappointing news. And while I admit that there has been some friction between us, we have good history.

Audra: Can’t argue that. Look, I certainly haven’t forgotten that you’ve come through for me in the past, but now I’ve landed solidly on my feet. Not sure the same can be said for you. It must be hard, facing one rejection after another.

Tucker: Yeah, you do like to play rough, don’t you?

Audra: I’m not playing at all. I suppose now that we’ve, you know, gone our separate ways professionally and personally, there’s no reason for animosity.

Tucker: Mm.

Audra: Is it possible that we could actually, you know, turn out to be, dare I say it, friends without benefits?

[ Knock on door ]

Phyllis: Hey! Hi.

Daniel: Hi. I want to know what in that crazy head of yours made you think it was okay to fly to portugal without talking to me about it first.

Phyllis: Okay. Okay. I didn’t want you to overthink anything, and I didn’t want you to worry about me or how the trip was going.

Daniel: No. No, see, I’m not buying that. I think that you didn’t want to ask me because you were afraid i would have said no, which i would have, by the way. I would have said no. It’s also the reason why you never bothered to call me back when I begged you not to do this in the first place.

Phyllis: Oh, my goodness. I was on a mission to help my son. What, I can’t help my son? I can’t care about my son? It’s not so odd that I would reach out to heather. I can’t visit lucy?

Daniel: So, you saw them? Are you gonna tell me what happened?

[Sword sharpening]

Kyle: Okay, we can talk about this later. I will explain everything.

Summer: I’m not going anywhere.

Kyle: Okay, this isn’t the time or the place.

Summer: I already know what’s going on, kyle.

Kyle: Hey, what the hell did you say to her?

Adam: Oh, a little something called the truth, kyle.

Jack: Like I said when you first came in, kyle and I are in the middle of a conversation that we need to finish.

Adam: And I’m sorry for barging into your office, jack. I will leave once I say my piece. This conversation is about me, so I’m going to take some liberties.

Kyle: Mm. What else is new?

Adam: I assume that you were confronting kyle over his backdoor collusion with victor. But the truth is, you should be thanking kyle. In fact, you should be thanking victor and kyle.

Tucker: A friendship, eh? Yeah.

[ Laughs ] Could be a challenge. It might also be doable, though. What the hell? Why not give it a shot?

Audra: Good. That way, neither of us has to, you know, move out or go out of the way for coffee.

Tucker: Mm-hmm.

Audra: Congrats to us for being so adult.

Tucker: Yes, congratulations to us. So, how do you see this friendship working?

Audra: Oh, you know, the usual way — lunches, dinners, check-ins. How do you not understand that? Don’t you have any friends? Oh. Right.

Tucker: Right, and you’re drowning in dinner invitations, are you?

Audra: I have been working a lot.

Tucker: Right. So we can cross devon and lily off the friend list.

Audra: Mm.

Tucker: And I’m assuming your reunion with noah went about as well as mine did with ashley.

Audra: So we both need a friendly shoulder to lean on.

[ Sighs ] A platonic dinner might just be what the doctor ordered.

Tucker: Yes. Yes. A platonic dinner. No sex at dinner ’cause we’d be out in public, right? You can’t do that.

[ Breathes deeply ] Are you sure you want to be seen in town with me?

Audra: If you’re okay being seen with me.

Tucker: Oh, man. I’ll be the envy of every guy in town.

Audra: Stop it.

Tucker: But we’d just be friends, right? What the hell? Yeah, I’m in.

Phyllis: Well, so, I went to heather’s house.

Daniel: I bet she was surprised to find you on her doorstep.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. She was.

Daniel: ‘Cause you didn’t give her any advance notice, of course.

Phyllis: No. No. But she was lovely. She invited me, and we had a chat. She offered me coffee, uh, and i wanted to tell her all about your omega sphere, but she knew about it because she saw an advance copy of the press release.

Daniel: Which I could have told you, had you given me a heads-up as to what you were doing.

Phyllis: Yeah, but it was very important to me to tell her that you were inspired, that you were doing something new and all the changes you have made.

Daniel: What’d she say?

Phyllis: Well, she said she was happy about the changes.

Daniel: That’s heather being polite. What else did she say?

Phyllis: Well, she seemed genuinely happy.

Daniel: But she just left it at that?

Phyllis: Well, I mean, listen, I think she just needs a second to process everything.

Daniel: What about lucy?

Phyllis: Um, I-I didn’t see lucy for a long time, actually. Um…she seemed uncomfortable. Uh, she’s probably just going into that teenage stuff, you know?

Daniel: So it was just one great big failure.

Phyllis: Well, no, no. It wasn’t a failure. I didn’t see it that way. I mean, it was the first volley, you know? Now — now we have a step toward really fixing things.

Daniel: [ Scoffs ] I don’t believe you. I feel like you’re trying to spare my feelings. Just tell me the truth. Just be honest with me.

Phyllis: Okay, it wasn’t — it wasn’t really a success, you know, but —

Daniel: Right there.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ]

Daniel: I don’t know why you needed to force the issue. It was too soon. We weren’t in a place where we could make that kind of gesture yet.

Phyllis: Oh, my gosh. Daniel, I just wanted to help.

Daniel: Yeah. I bet. But you never do. Migraine hits hard…

Victoria: You know, we always make it a point to have significant money in reserves so that we can make acquisitions. But mccall unlimited is so big that we’re gonna have to move money between divisions and maybe sell off some of our real-estate projects, walk away from deals, and redirect the money towards this.

Nate: Can you walk me through that in more detail?

Victoria: Do you really want to hear about this?

[ Both laugh ]

Nate: I’m intrigued by the way the money moves around — and how your mind works. I may not have a scotch to facilitate our brainstorming, but I do find it all a bit intoxicating.

Victoria: So do I. I think we’re alike in that way.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] Every day I work here proves this is exactly where I should be.

[ Knock on door ] Come in. [ Clears throat ]

[ Door opens ]

Audra: I hope I’m not interrupting anything.

Victoria: Oh, no, not at all. Please join us.

Phyllis: Excuse me, young man. Let me tell you something. My flying all the way to portugal to help you was an act of love for my son and nothing else, okay? No, I didn’t help things, but I didn’t make a difference. You’re at the same place you were with heather before I went.

Daniel: [ Chuckles ] Why can’t you ever just admit that you’re wrong, hmm? It’s like this missing switch in your brain.

Phyllis: I absolutely admit when I’m wrong.

Daniel: No, you don’T. It’s like a blind spot.

Phyllis: I’m not wrong in this case.

Daniel: You are infuriating!

Phyllis: Okay, you know what? Let’s just table this, seriously, seriously, before we both say something we’ll regret.

Daniel: Really? No! No. I want you to listen to me. I want you to really hear me right now, okay? Stay out of my business. I mean it. I want to stick around genoa city for a little while. I want to build something meaningful with lily, something that’s gonna do more for than just me, and I can’t have you running around always screwing things up.

Phyllis: Okay, daniel, daniel, I told you I didn’t make things worse. I didn’T. I didn’t even make a difference.

Daniel: What you did was selfish and self-involved. And no matter what you think, it wasn’t about love.

Phyllis: Okay, listen. I know you’re upset. I want to make it up to you, okay? So let’s just take a minute, and tomorrow we can get together and I can tell you all about the things I’m doing for omega sphere.

Daniel: [ Laughs ] Oh, my god. You’re really not listening. When I said stay out of my business, I meant my actual business.

Phyllis: Oh, my god. Really? Are you seriously firing me?

Daniel: You already made me regret hiring you before you pulled this latest stunt. So, yes. Yeah. Consider this your official termination notice.

[ Door slams ]

Phyllis: [ Sighs ]

Jack: Believe me, I won’t be thanking kyle or victor for their machinations.

Kyle: And, adam, I don’t need you, of all people, butting in right now and trying to suck up.

Summer: You know what? Maybe you should actually try listening to him.

Kyle: I’d rather discuss this with you alone. I came clean with my dad. I will do the same with you later.

Summer: Not sure what more there is to talk about. I really hope those textile mills were worth it to you.

Jack: Wait, what is she talking about?

Summer: Oh. I thought you told him everything.

Kyle: We got interrupted before we got that far.

Jack: Wait, you — you sold me out to victor for some textile mills? That only proves my point about his motives. If he’s willing to pay that high a price, he wants a lot more back from you in exchange. Kyle, the other shoe’s about to drop. Now, I’ll give you one more chance to tell me. What is victor’s next plan?

Michael: I am poised like a jungle cat, as soon as you and victoria give me the word. But this I will say again — taking ownership of tucker’s debt will be the easiest part of our play for his company. And the man’s not known for backing down in the face of tough times. And I’m sure he’s got some sort of back-up plan.

Victor: I’m aware.

Michael: Of course you are.

Victor: Let him bring on whatever he has up his sleeve.

Michael: As long as we all stay aware that tucker’s not gonna let newman take control of his company without one hell of a fight.

Victor: Have you ever known me to walk away from a fight?

Michael: [ Chuckles ]

Lily: Hi. I see from the expression on your face the conversation with phyllis didn’t go well.

Daniel: Well, the only upside is that she’s been officially let go from the project.

Lily: So, you went through with it?

Daniel: Gave her the ax.

Lily: Wow. I’m really sorry it came to that.

Daniel: Mm-hmm. I’m more concerned about the damage that she’s done to my personal life. I still can’t believe that she would go and interfere the way she did, except for the fact that, you know, I have a whole lifetime of experience to draw from.

Lily: Yeah. Well, I’m sure she meant well.

Daniel: So does she. That’s what makes it even more infuriating, you know? It — it means that she’s never gonna to back down and she’s never going to admit that she was wrong. She’s like a freight train, you know, that just won’t stop until she gets what she wants. And she has a blatant disregard for other people or the havoc she might be wreaking.

Lily: Yeah. I think we’ve all experienced the phyllis train.

[ Chuckles ] I mean, do you really think that no good came from her visit?

Daniel: She went there without having any idea of what I actually put heather and lucy through, you know? And, I mean, I told her a little bit about it, but it’s not the same as experiencing it. And I’m sure she doesn’t want to believe any of the stuff I told her about myself or my actions.

Lily: So, you think she was glossing over everything?

Daniel: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, I could just picture her showing up and declaring that everything’s better now and how that must have gone over. And what’s worse is it — it wasn’t her call to make, you know? I mean, what kind of message does that send?

Lily: Well, maybe heather knew that she was acting on her own, without your approval.

Daniel: That’s even worse. I mean, then it looks like i still don’t have my act together. And that my mom runs my life? No, those are all pretty terrible messages. I think that she may have ruined my chances to reconcile with my family.

Victoria: I should get back to work. I’ll touch base with you later if there are any new developments.

Nate: Sounds good.

Audra: You sure I didn’t interrupt something important?

Nate: Not at all. We were done.

Audra: Should I be clued in on whatever developments victoria was referring to or…?

Nate: When there’s something to clue you in on, I will let you know. The more important matter is if you were able to mend fences with tucker.

Audra: I have good news on that front. I was able to arrange an accidental run-in with him today, and I played my part perfectly, if I do say so myself.

Nate: Okay. Did you get any new information from him?

Audra: Uh, I couldn’t push too hard, too fast. But I did convince him that we can be friends again. In fact, we are having dinner tonight.

Nate: I’m impressed. Good work.

Audra: Don’t congratulate me yet, not until I find out if he suspects that the newmans are up to something.

Kyle: I honestly believe victor doesn’t have anything else planned. He was happy to get the information about adam’s lackluster performance. If he does have anything up his sleeve, he didn’t tell me about it.

Jack: That doesn’t mean anything, kyle. You walked into the situation thinking you were in control of it, but you were walking in blind because you only thought about what you wanted.

Kyle: I disagree.

Jack: Oh, I’m sure you do. But I know victor newman a whole lot better than you do. That man can’t be trusted. And I’m sure he would love to leave you hanging because you didn’t see the bigger picture.

Kyle: I would always protect jabot no matter what.

Jack: The fact that you are defending yourself only makes me believe all the more you didn’t know what you were doing.

Adam: Look, jack, this is your office. And I respect that. And I realize this is a very tense moment for all of us, but hopefully I’m gonna make things a little less stressful with what I’m about to say.

Jack: Go ahead.

Adam: [ Sighs ] I’m not gonna take issue with what kyle did because I think he was just looking out for jabot. I mean, if the circumstances were reversed and I was at the helm of newman and some interloper wasn’t living up to their potential at the top of my family’s company, I would have done everything in my power to get rid of him. And I will own that my work went to hell. After my recent personal failures, I’ve been coasting for a while now. I lost my drive and my focus, and I haven’t brought anything of real value to the table.

Jack: Well, I appreciate your honesty. I appreciate your humility. I think you’re being too tough on yourself, and I’d like to help you put these recent setbacks behind you so that we can get back to business as usual. Since you know of the mistakes you’ve made, we can make adjustments.

Adam: Jack, I’m gonna be brutally honest with you. I’ve thought a lot about this, examined why I have fallen short, and I don’t think things are gonna change… which is why I have an announcement to make. Ever leave your clothes in the dryer

Lily: No, I refuse to let you give up on heather and lucy, okay? Because you do not run, either. Ever since we made that decision to go on the lam in L.A., You have become a fighter — I think more than I have.

Daniel: Well, I don’t really feel like much of one right now.

Lily: What are you talking about? Everything that you’ve been doing has been rooted in getting heather and lucy back. So, phyllis may have thrown things off their trajectory for a bit, but I know that you will get them back on track.

Daniel: Why?

Lily: Because I know how you are when you love someone. You are devoted and determined, and you love your family. So I know, when it’s the right time, you’re gonna show them how great things can be again. Listen, trust me — no one can resist daniel romalotti when he’s firing on all cylinders.

Victoria: Mwah!

Victor: Hi, my sweet love.

Victoria: I bring good news.

Victor: You do? I’m eager to hear it.

Victoria: All of the financing is lined up, and we are ready to make our first move against tucker.

Kyle: This is ridiculous. I’m done listening to your grandstanding.

Adam: Okay, just give me one more minute. I guarantee you’re gonna love this next part. Um, jack, first and foremost, i really want to thank you for everything. I know what a big risk it was in you hiring me, and that does not go unappreciated. But my work didn’t measure up. So now the moment has arrived. You can fire me, or I can resign. Either way, it’s best for everyone. I’m leaving jabot.

Michael: However, certain sensitive details have come to light that should be kept on a need-to-know basis. And since this is newman enterprises’ corporate business, which doesn’t involve newman media, I’m sure you will understand.

Victoria: He already knows about our plan to assume tucker’s outstanding debt, so there’s no need to talk around it. It’s why I wanted him in on this meeting in the first place. Not only does nate have the big, bold ideas that we need on something like this. We also happen to have a key element in place that is going to help us tremendously, thanks to nate.

Michael: Oh, goody. What might that be?

Victor: I think victoria’s referring to nate’s coo, audra charles, right?

Tucker: Mind if I join you?

Audra: Yes, I do.

Tucker: Ah. How’s the new gig going? Ahh. Is, uh, newman media still planning a move on daniel romalotti’s gaming platform?

Audra: [ Sighs ] You didn’t get the memo? We’re not in cahoots anymore. I thought I was clear when you summoned me to talk about omega sphere.

Tucker: What was clear to me by the time you left my room is that you still enjoy certain aspects of spending time with me. You’ll have to forgive me if i assumed that meant still being in cahoots.

Audra: Why would I, uh, feed you information that could help you and work against newman media?

Daniel: Chance.

Chance: Hey, daniel. How you doing, man? I heard you were back in town.

Daniel: Yeah. It’s good to see you.

Nick: The real impact on our lives has already happened, right? You’re pregnant. And I’ve told you I’m here for the duration. I think I’ve done a pretty good job of trying to convince you of that.

Sally: Yeah, absolutely. It’s just the not knowing whether you’re the father or adam is. That’s the big question mark. That’s what’s hard. I mean, I was ready to climb walls after having to wait just a few minutes for a pregnancy test. How in the world am I supposed to get through the next few days?

Nick: You got this. I have faith in you.

Sally: How are you so calm when you don’t even know if you’re gonna be changing diapers again? I’m sure you thought you were done with all of that. I mean, christian is becoming more self-sufficient now, and sum– oh, my god. This baby could be summer’s little brother or sister. She’s gonna hate that.

Nick: Yeah, let’s not think about things like that, okay? It just stresses you out. Just take a deep breath.

Sally: No, you’re right. I mean, it might not even be yours.

[ Exhales sharply ] And if it’s not yours, then i just have to deal with adam being the father… and telling him.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Yeah. Well, we’ve talked about this. You don’t have to tell him anything right now. You can choose when and how you want to handle all these things, when it’s best for you. Personally, I wish he never had to know.

Sally: Yeah, well, that’s why I started out just testing your dna. You know, and if things turn out like we’re hoping, it would simplify things immensely. But is it the right thing?

Nick: Ethically, you mean?

Sally: I just mean adam is eventually gonna know I’m pregnant. You know, I — there’s no way i can hide that. And he’s going to be able to do the math, and we both know he’s not gonna ignore the possibility that he could be the father. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and tell him.

Daniel: Man, you’re this literal hero and I’m just the guy who screwed everything up and yet here we are, more or less the same place.

Chance: Yeah. Well, you think putting physical distance in between you and heather will help?

Daniel: Actually, I came back here to work on this exciting new venture, um, with your family’s company. Well, yours and lily’S.

Chance: No way. You’re working with chancellor-winters.

Daniel: Mm-hmm.

Chance: Doing what?

Daniel: Haven’t got the official green light yet, but, um, I pitched them on our new video game platform.

Chance: You’re kidding.

Daniel: Mm-hmm. Eh, it probably seems pretty frivolous to you.

Chance: Mnh. No. Hey, abby’s nephews gave me a crash course on one of their favorite video games a while back, so I get it, man. I get what a big deal they are.

Daniel: Mm. I got into gaming ’cause of my daughter. I’m hoping that’ll be my path back to her, you know? If I can pull this off, maybe i can prove to lucy and heather that I’ve grown, that I’ve matured. Then they’ll be able to trust me again, and — I don’t know — hopefully one day, it’ll bring us back together.

Nate: Audra was tucker’s mole at chancellor-winters. While consulting on the ipo, she fed him information to help him gain a controlling interest once the company went public.

Michael: And now she’s here at a newman subsidiary.

Nate: She no longer works for tucker, but it seems she can still get his ear whenever she needs to.

Michael: How convenient.

Nate: Most importantly, audra knows how the man’s mind works and how to play him. She can be a valuable asset in any plan to take over mccall unlimited.

Victor: I agree. I think she could be of use — if she’s on board. Do we know where her loyalties lie?

Nate: I can’t speak for my coo, but she’s been pretty vocal about her frustration with tucker regarding their dealings with chancellor-winters. Audra’s made it clear she has something to prove to the man, which we can use to our advantage.

Michael: Alright, I can see the value of having a team member who can assess our target’s state of mind, but can she be trusted? She was a double agent at chancellor-winters. What assurance do we have that she’s not working with tucker to play us?

Tucker: No, I’m just asking about the gaming platform out of curiosity.

Audra: Oh, sure you are.

Tucker: Oh, audra, as god is my witness, I would never sabotage you. You know that. Just a little friendly competition.

Audra: Is that really your thing?

Tucker: I already made my pitch to daniel anyway, and he was very impressed. But I would like to know newman media’s intentions to help me decide whether to get more aggressive or, if need be, move on.

Audra: I might consider sharing some information with you if you share some with me first.

Tucker: What would you like to know?

Audra: Mm. Tell me the truth. Just how much debt are you in really? One prilosec otc each morning blocks

Tucker: I am amazed that that rumor is flying around. It really makes me wonder where it originated ’cause it’s clearly an attempt to undermine me.

Audra: By whom?

Tucker: Well, uh, nick and victoria newman asked me about it directly, so maybe it came from victor. Um, and we all know that nikki has it in for me. Hell, it could have been jack as a counterpunch to me trying to acquire jabot.

Audra: Or maybe ashley as a parting shot or devon to express his irritation with you.

Tucker: Yeah, there are so many people in this town to choose from.

Audra: You know, I find it remarkable just how many enemies you’ve made in the short time you’ve been back in town.

Tucker: I don’t consider them enemies. They’re just worthy adversaries.

Audra: Of course, there’s another possibility.

Tucker: Who’d we leave out?

Audra: Maybe it’s not a rumor. Maybe mccall unlimited really is floundering.

Tucker: Does that seem likely to you? Your checks always cleared, didn’t they?

Audra: [ Scoffs ] I mean, you didn’t pay me nearly enough for that to put a dent in your bottom line.

Tucker: If I were having financial issues, it wouldn’t make any sense for me to plot to buy a controlling interest in chancellor-winters or make a move on omega sphere.

Audra: In business school, i read numerous case studies about moguls who use other people’s and the bank’s money to finance acquisitions. Just…

Tucker: Well, I hope that when they write about me that my story’s a little more interesting than that. Who knows? Maybe you’ll merit a mention.

Audra: I’m no mere footnote, okay? My career is gonna be worthy of an article of its own.

Tucker: Yes, I know. You’re a confident woman. I’ve always admired that.

Audra: You still haven’t told me anything.

Tucker: What?

Audra: No.

Tucker: I think I’ve been quite clear.

Audra: Alright. I have a meeting, okay? If you’re not gonna be straight with me, I’m not gonna share anything that I know about newman media’s intentions.

Tucker: Well, you know what? I think your offer is not a fair trade.

Audra: Oh.

Tucker: Why would I give up valuable information to learn what I already know? Nate is interested in omega sphere. So I think I’m gonna pass.

Audra: That’s almost an acknowledgment.

Nate: Audra has proven her loyalty.

Victor: In what way?

Nick: There’s a new venture I’m interested in. She found out tucker is going after it, as well, and she’s determined to help me get ahead of him on this.

Michael: And yet you worked with this woman for months at chancellor-winters and had no idea what she was up to.

Nate: She fooled all of us, including jill, who hired her in the first place. But that was before audra’s eyes were open and she became disillusioned with tucker. So, yes, I believe she’s loyal. She’s also grateful to have her job here and eager to prove her worth.

Michael: I’m glad you have a good working relationship. I’m still not convinced we need to bring in anyone else on this. We have everything we need to move against tucker by assuming his debt.

Nate: Look, I’m curious about that. Could tucker have made himself so vulnerable that he could lose control of his entire company? Is he really that desperate?

Victoria: That’s a great question. What do you think?

Victor: Michael?

Michael: I just discovered and relayed to victor that, uh, buying mccall’s debt will give us leverage, but not absolute control. We’ll still need to convince tucker to sell to us.

Victoria: Which is a battle in itself.

Nick: What I’m really asking — could tucker have taken on this debt on purpose? Is it possible he’s laying some kind of trap for us? I mean, the man thinks several moves ahead, not unlike you, victor, although I’m not sure what his endgame would be.

Victor: The question has occurred to me, as well. I don’t see any downside to acquiring his debt. But I like the way your mind works.

Victoria: This does sound like the kind of challenge that tucker relishes.

Victor: The question to you, nate, is how would he react if he knows that we’re gonna acquire his debt? The only person who might find out for us is your coo.

Chance: So you’re embarking on this whole new career in hopes of winning back heather and lucy?

Daniel: It’s gonna allow me to become my best self and, you know, maybe help others change, too.

Chance: By playing video games, huh?

Daniel: Well, I’m designing them to have a positive message so players hopefully will be inspired to take action in their own lives.

[ Laughs ] That probably sounds crazy to you.

Chance: No, man, that’s awesome. That’s awesome. You’re doing something that you feel strongly about. I bet that must feel amazing.

Daniel: What do you mean, “must feel”? You’ve been doing that your whole life, working for the greater good.

Chance: Yeah. I don’t know. Guess I haven’t really been feeling the same passion lately.

Daniel: Mm.

Chance: You know, I got into law enforcement because i believe in justice, right? You know, I wanted to protect the innocent. I wanted to make sure the guilty were punished. Lately it just feels like I’ve been doing the opposite of that.

Daniel: Did you have some cases fall apart or something?

Chance: Yeah, something like that.

Daniel: Mm.

Chance: I don’t know. Maybe I’ve just been too idealistic this whole time. Maybe I need to play one of your video games, catch me a little inspiration to make things better.

Daniel: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: I wouldn’t be in a rush to tell adam anything right now. Assuming the lab results come back and I am the father, it’ll make the conversation a lot easier.

Sally: [ Sighs ] I know. And chloe convinced me of that, and I know you agreed. And at the time, it made sense. I — I don’t know if it’s hormones, but lately things that make sense in one moment definitely do not in the next, and now I’m just — I’m second-guessing it. I’m just imagining adam’s reaction whenever he finds out, and then he’s gonna know that i kept it from him.

Nick: I think you need something to distract yourself. How about work? Do you think you could focus on that?

Sally: Maybe, if I had any to focus on.

Nick: What if I got in touch with jill and convinced her to let you and chloe give your pitch?

Sally: [ Chuckles ] That’s a very sweet offer, but i would not feel right about you getting involved.

Nick: I’m already involved.

Sally: You can’t fix everything. Nor would I expect you to. Look, you’re here for me on account of the baby, but it is not your responsibility to get me a job.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] Actually, I feel partially responsible for that, um, considering it was my father who threw a wrench into the whole thing.

Sally: Victor called jill and trashed me?

Nick: To sabotage your meeting.

Sally: Unbelievable.

Nick: Yeah. Uh, I didn’t say anything before because of everything that’s going on, but, sally, you deserved to know.

Sally: Honest to god, I don’t even know what to say… except [Scoffs] What a jackass!

Nick: Well, I want to try and make this right. I want to reach out to jill and see if I can repair the damage my father has done. And I think I can do that. I think I can convince her to reevaluate her decision and give you and chloe a real shot, if you’ll let me.

Sally: [ Scoffs ] I always knew that victor wasn’t my number-one fan, but I thought maybe based on my quality of work at newman media that he had a grudging respect for me. Why would he go out of his way to torpedo my new business opportunity, one that has absolutely nothing to do with newman media? Because he thinks I’m no good for either of his sons and he’s hoping that if I can’t make a living here, then I’ll just slink out of town in search of a new opportunity?

Nick: Pretty much.

Sally: You know, that’s not just insulting to me. It’s also a slap in the face to you and even adam.

Nick: Well, he thinks he knows what’s best for us, and if we disagree with him, then he feels like he has to protect us from our lousy judgment.

Sally: Wow. Suddenly, I am feeling a lot better about having absentee parents. At least they never tried to interfere in my life. I mean, how have you dealt with him for so long?

Nick: Trust me, I’ve lost my temper with him many, many times. But I just have to remind myself he’s my father. I know he loves me, and these are just his misguided attempts at expressing his love.

Sally: [ Scoffs ] I mean, still, for him to go to such lengths to screw me over.

Nick: Look, it’s just… you know, it’s who he is. Try not to take it personally.

Sally: Oh, but I do! I take it very, very personally. However this paternity test turns out, I am going to be the mother of his next grandchild, so he better understand who the hell I am and what I’m willing to fight for. I don’t care who he is, but victor is not going to rob me of my dream. Do it. Do it. Call jill.

Daniel: I’m a long ways away from needing any beta testers for any of my games. I mean, it’s a huge process. You got months of development and encoding and…

Chance: Well, I actually know a little something about that. Yeah, I learned to code when i was in the military, for completely different kinds of projects, of course, but…

Daniel: Ah, okay. Well, I won’t bother asking what they were ’cause I’m sure you can’t tell me.

Chance: Ah, yeah, no, that’s all classified stuff.

Daniel: [ Chuckles ]

Chance: I’ll tell you, though, at the time, I looked at that as just, like, a desk job, right? I was eager to get back out in the field, see the action. But I don’t know. Right now…

Daniel: What? You telling me the man of action would be content sitting in an office?

Chance: Probably not. But I’ll tell you what I did like about coding. There’s a right way to do everything. You know what I’m saying? I mean, you can’t do anything wrong or the program’s not gonna run. No shades of gray. There’s no ambiguity. There’s no pretending a problem isn’t a big deal because one little bug, and that whole system’s gonna crash. And right now, that sounds very refreshing.

Audra: I have wasted enough of my morning with your game playing.

Tucker: Come on. It’s the highlight of your day.

Audra: Once upon a time, that could have been true. Or at least I could fake it. But I’m no longer working for you, and we have competing interests.

[ Cellphone pings ]

Audra: What’s wrong?

Tucker: Why is it in any of your business?

Audra: You’re right. It isn’T.

Nate: Sorry to run out on you, but I have a meeting to get to. Thank you for letting me sit in. It’s been enlightening.

Victoria: Thank you for your input, nate.

Victoria: Um, before you go, I actually have one quick question.

[ Door closes ]

Michael: Victoria seems to be putting a lot of trust in nate.

Victor: I know.

Victoria: Thank you for staying and for not being afraid to share your thoughts.

Nate: Mm, it’s refreshing to be somewhere where I’m not shut down right away.

Victoria: Well, I don’t think you’re gonna have that issue here.

Nate: Well, I will start laying the groundwork with audra and report back to you. I believe she’s loyal on this, but I will proceed with caution.

Victoria: I’d expect nothing less.

Nate: [ Clears throat ]

Daniel: You know, that is a really interesting way of looking at coding. You know, I always came at it like an artist, so all the rules, they — they get on my nerves. They make it really difficult to be creative for me.

Chance: Yeah, well, so much for us having something in common, man. I think our brains work in completely different ways.

Daniel: Believe me, sometimes I wish I was more logical and analytical. Maybe then I wouldn’t have had to hire my mom as my tech lead.

Chance: Oh, you’re working with phyllis?

Daniel: Mm. I’m taking from your tone that you’ve had some run-ins with her.

Chance: Look, your mom, she is, uh — she’s a very intelligent woman.

Daniel: [ Chuckles ] Yes, she is. You know, she knows a lot about gaming and about computers and she needed a job and I, um…

[ Sighs ]

Chance: You love your mom. You love your mom.

[ Laughs ]

Daniel: Yes. Yes, I love my mom.

Chance: Yeah.

Daniel: Even if I’m really mad at her right now. Look, whatever frustrations you’re having with your job, at least you don’t have the added stress of having to work with your family.

Chance: Well, hey, speaking of that, if it does work out with chancellor-winters, not only will you be working with phyllis, but you’ll be working with my grandmother.

Jill: When my assistant told me it was you on the line, I was pleasantly surprised.

Nick: Well, thank you for taking the time.

Jill: For you? Absolutely.

Nick: I’m calling you on behalf of sally spectra, jill. I know she got a raw deal from my dad, and I’m hoping I can convince you to ignore whatever it is he said to you that made you decide not to do business with her.

Jill: Go on.

Nick: I know dad put a bug in your ear about some bad business dealings during sally’s time in L.A. But as coo of newman enterprises, I worked very closely with sally while she was running newman media. On top of that —

Jill: Wait. Wait. Your father just didn’t put a bug in my ear. He sent me a dossier three inches thick detailing who sally is. Now, a lot of it was no surprise to me. I knew her by her reputation. But I didn’t realize what chaos she had created in the past — and especially for your own daughter, summer. So, frankly, nick, I’m a little surprised that you would defend the woman.

Nick: Yeah. Dad tried to pull the same move with me. Full disclosure, jill — sally and I are involved in a relationship. It’s a relationship that my father does not support.

Jill: I see.

Nick: And just so you know, dad didn’t give you that dossier so he could protect you and chancellor-winters. He did that to punish sally. It was vindictive and out of line. And that’s not who sally is anymore. She’s worked very hard to make a name and a life for herself that she can be proud of.

Jill: Alright, I admit I was dismayed by what I read. But what I really hate is that victor has played me for his own petty reasons. And I respect your opinion, nick. Will you be honest with me?

Nick: Of course.

Jill: Are you just helping out a girlfriend, or are you willing to stand behind ms. Spectra’s business acumen as someone I could invest in?

Nick: I wholeheartedly stand behind sally, so much so that i tried to invest in her new business venture myself, but she wasn’t having it. I couldn’t talk her into it, and I can’t push her anymore. I can give you a long list of newman employees who will attest to sally’s ability and her qualities as a leader. She’s very passionate about her design, she’s incredibly talented, and I know she will work tirelessly for you until you’re satisfied. I think you’d be very, very lucky to have her. All I’m asking you, jill, is just give her and chloe a shot. Hear them out and then make a decision for yourself. Melissa: You hear about cancer.

Chloe: How the hell did you convince jill to give us a second chance?

Sally: [ Exhales heavily ] Nick saved the day, which I will explain to you later. But jill wants to hear our pitch now.

Chloe: Whoa. Uh, okay.

Nick: Do you need to get set up? I can get jill on the video chat right now.

Sally: I’m ready if you are.

Chloe: Yeah. Let’s do this.

[ Key clacks ]

Nick: Jill. Hi. I have chloe and sally with me.

Jill: Well, we’re all busy people, so you have my attention.

Sally: We know that chancellor-winters is looking to acquire more hotels, and our design sensibility is the perfect fit.

Chloe: Yeah, and we can ensure all of your properties have their own signature look, while giving them their own unique style.

Sally: Yes, my résumé is eclectic. That is an advantage. I can draw on everything I’ve learned from my time in the fashion and the media industries and apply it to interior design. I believe that furnishings are every bit as chic as any look that walks down the runway. We need to focus on the user experience. So, design needs to be more than just aesthetically pleasing. It also needs to be functional. And that’s pretty much it. We will e-mail you our written proposal by the end of the day.

Jill: Ladies, I’m impressed. And I promise you I will give your proposal very serious consideration. Now, the company’s in flux right now, so it may be a while before I can make my decision, but… I like what I’ve heard. Oh, and I applaud you, sally, for turning around what is clearly a train wreck of a life.

Sally: [ Chuckles ] I take that as a compliment.

Jill: Yeah, it was meant as one. And, chloe, you give kevin and those babies my best, okay?

Chloe: I will.

Sally: Thank you, jill.

Jill: Bye, now.

Sally: Bye.

Sally: Ah! We did it!

Chloe: Ah, don’t be so modest. We killed it.

Nick: That was amazing. You guys seriously knocked it out of the park.

Sally: Ah. We really did.

Chloe: Thank you, nick, for, you know, making all this happen.

Nick: I’m just glad it worked out.

Chloe: And I need to get to kevin. How great is it gonna be to be able to tell him that we might be going back to being a two-income family? Mm!

Daniel: I know jill co-owns chancellor-winters, but she’s basically retired, right?

Chance: Well, just from, like, the day-to-day stuff. But believe me, she finds ways to make her presence known. You should see these text messages I get.

Daniel: Hmm. Well, I’d gladly meet with her every day if it guaranteed me a firm green light.

Chance: Yeah. Well, I hate to be a debbie downer, but if it doesn’t work out with chancellor-winters, what are you gonna do?

Daniel: There are some other backers here in town who have expressed interest.

Chance: That’s great.

Daniel: But I really hope it works out with chancellor-winters because i know with lily I can trust her to do right by me and my project. Everybody else just seems like they’d be using me to further their own agendas.

Audra: [ Sighs ] What an annoying morning.

Nate: Won’t ask. Listen, I’m glad you’re here.

Audra: Oh. What’s up?

Nate: I was pulled into an interesting meeting with victor, victoria, and michael baldwin. And your name came up.

Audra: In what context?

Nate: First I need to know what, if any, allegiance you still have to tucker.

Audra: None whatsoever. He tried to work me yet again today, probing to see, you know, how far we’ve gotten going after omega sphere.

Nate: And why would he think you’d share that, given that you’re now the competition?

Audra: That’s how much of an egomaniac he is. You know, tucker thinks that I’ll always be loyal to him, even when he’s shut me out and disrespected me. But I’m used to it. So I dangled some bait, asking him for information on the rumors about his debt.

Nate: Was he willing to confirm those rumors?

Audra: Of course not. No, he was evasive at first. Then he acted like the chatter he’s over-leveraged was just a plot to undermine him, although he didn’t seem terribly concerned. So I gave him zip about our intentions where daniel’s project is concerned.

Nate: How’d he react to that?

Audra: He didn’T. No, then he got a text and got all huffy. Trust me when I say tucker mccall is not a man on top of the world.

Nate: How did you leave things?

Audra: Oh, not to worry. Look, I made it clear I want nothing to do with him.

Nate: Well, I’m gonna need you to rethink that. Your connection could be just the advantage we need.

Chance: Well, I got to get going, man. I got to get back to the station.

Daniel: Alright. I hope that today is one of those days when justice will truly be served.

Chance: Me too, brother, me too. And, hey, I hope it works out with chancellor-winters and with heather and lucy. Good luck with that.

Daniel: Thank you. It’s been nice talking to someone else who’s rebuilding his life.

Chance: Yeah, man. It’s like a little mini support group.

Daniel: Mm. It is. We should do it again.

Sally: Thank you again for supporting me with jill and for being levelheaded when I was a mess and for taking my mind off the things that I do not want to think about right now.

Nick: You dazzled me today. When I think about everything you’ve overcome, including self-doubt when we came back from…the place that shall remain nameless.

Sally: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: You went from spinning out to impressing the hell out of jill. That is no small feat, especially when you consider you did it just spur of the moment like that.

Sally: Well, chloe and I have worked so hard on that pitch, we could give it in our sleep.

Nick: [ Sighs ] It was awesome to watch. You shook off what my dad did to you and just… you are amazing. I don’t know what jill’s gonna say or do. But I was proud of you. Seriously. You were radiant. Hot.

Sally: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: It was pretty great to watch.

Sally: Just pretty great? Not, like, sensational or stupendous? Brilliant? Mind-blowing?

Nick: Yeah. Those, too.

Audra: You want me to keep a back channel? I thought you were adamant that I severe all ties with tucker as a matter of trust.

Nate: I do need to be sure you’re aligned with newman and not tucker. That hasn’t changed. But I hope you haven’t burned your bridges with him just yet.

Audra: I’m getting the feeling this is about more than omega sphere.

Nate: Certain moves are about to be made.

Audra: Against tucker?

Nate: Newman intends to acquire his debt, which appears to be substantial. And there’s interest from the c-suite in your ability to gauge his awareness of what’s afoot, get a read on what his response might be.

Audra: That sounds fun.

Nate: Only now you’ve got me worried. From what you just said, it sounds like tucker might not be confiding in you anymore.

Audra: Oh. I can fix that. He never stays mad at me for long.

Michael: I want it on the record that I am on the fence about bringing audra charles in.

Victor: I understand. But I have the feeling that nate has what it takes to navigate the situation.

Victoria: Yes. He will proceed with caution. I have no doubt.

Michael: Alrighty, then.

Victor: Well, mr. Baldwin, set the wheels in motion?

Michael: As soon as you give me the word.

Victoria: Once we own tucker’s debt, then we tighten the screws.

Victoria: You know, I don’t know what I’m looking forward to more — owning tucker’s company or the look on his face when he realizes that he’s been bested.

Kyle: Oh, somebody’s in a good mood this morning. Did mrs. Martinez make her special smoothies?

Kyle: Or is that smile on you face because of mom?

Adam: You sure you got everything?

Connor: Lunch, math, notebooks, water bottle.

Chelsea: Mm. Book report?

Connor: Of course I have that.

Chelsea: [ Gasps ] Aha! Luckily, you’ve got the best mom.

Adam: And father.

Connor: The best mother and father in the world.

Chelsea: [ Laughs ] You left that masterpiece in the printer. I get extra points, huh?

Adam: What? You mean the printer that your fantastic father fixed?

Chelsea: Well, I feel like we overlooked a very simple explanation for that. Like, was the printer unplugged? Was it missing paper in the tray?

Adam: What I did to the printer is highly technical, okay? I could tell you, but I don’t think you would understand. You know, I became the printer.

Chelsea: Huh. Oh, okay. Before we know it, he’s gonna take credit for reading the book and writing the paper.

Adam: I am just saying it takes all members of the family to make things happen.

Connor: Thanks, dad.

Chelsea: Wha– why do I need a reason to be in a good mood?

Adam: So, I take it you’re date with billy went well?

Victoria: Billy.

Billy: Hey. You’re happy to see me.

Victoria: I am.

Billy: Yeah. I can tell. You — you have that look.

Victoria: Okay. Um, what was I gonna say, if — if you can read my mind?

Billy: Well, I don’t know that. I’m not that good. But I’m assuming one of us is gonna be happy about it.

Victoria: Uh, actually, i wanted to, um, talk to you about lily.

Billy: And there you go. You never disappoint.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Look, I’m not trying to rub salt on the wound or anything like that. I know that breakups can be very painful.

Victoria: If that’s what this is.

Billy: [ Chuckles ] I’m not sure what else you think it might be.

Victoria: Maybe temporary insanity or, um, an interruption to your regular scheduled programming.

Victoria: I just know that katie and johnny have really grown fond of lily.

Billy: Yeah, she — she loves them, too.

Victoria: This is gonna be a really difficult transition for them.

Victoria: I’m sorry. She was good for you.

Billy: You know, as I recall, you weren’t exactly thrilled when I started dating her.

Victoria: Uh, well, as i recall, you accused me of being jealous. And, honestly…I was.

Victoria: I am, but not in the way that you think.

Billy: [ Chuckles ] In what way, exactly?

Victoria: I was just envious that lily got the mature, responsible, evolved version of you, when you couldn’t be that guy for me.

Billy: [ Sighs ] And you deserved better.

Victoria: Well, you tried.

Billy: I failed repeatedly.

Victoria: There was a tendency for you to fall into some reckless patterns, i suppose.

Billy: Is there a reason why we’re revisiting this depressing landscape?

Victoria: Our past dictates our future. People make choices expecting a different outcome.

Billy: So, what you’re saying is, in order to not have a repeat performance of the billy abbott show, you went the complete opposite direction.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] The seemingly perfect ashland locke, yes. I can’t believe that it took me so long to realize that he was betraying me. I guess I was fixated on finding someone accomplished and serious. Well, we all know how that turned out.

Billy: Well, I’ll never forget what you did to help the kids through that whole ordeal. And I promise you that I will do everything I can to help them through this transition.

Victoria: I know you will. So, what does this mean for you and chelsea?

[ Door closes ]

Chelsea: Why does everyone keep saying billy and I were on a date? The server at the restaurant made the same mistake. It was just — it was two friends sharing a meal, having a g-rated conversation, which was a big step for me, by the way.

Adam: I know going out in the world has been a challenge for you. I mean, what has that been like?

Chelsea: It made me feel confident, strong.

Adam: Well, that’s good.

Chelsea: Yeah. And you know what? It’s nice to have a friend.

Adam: I 100% support your choice to have friends, chelsea. Going out with chloe. Go have coffee with sharon. Hell, make some new friends. But — but billy? I don’t advise it.

Chelsea: Why? Men and women aren’t allowed to be friends?

Adam: No, that’s not what I’m saying. I’m looking out for you.

Chelsea: Ah.

Adam: The real billy, you know, the one who can’t, uh, commit to a job or a woman for more than a couple months, the one who’s still trying to figure out what he wants to be, if he — [Scoffs] If he grows up — he’s in hibernation, and you’re being finessed. This “normal guy” act is not gonna last. It never does.

Chelsea: Adam, it’s not as if you’re involved or anything.

Adam: Well, you’re going out all the time. I mean, do you have any idea what that looks like?

Chelsea: [ Laughs ] Well, I hope it looks like I’m out having fun. And I refuse to feel ashamed about that.

Adam: I’m just saying that your so-called savior is gonna let you down. It is inevitable. Right now, he is relishing in being your hero, but he’s gonna get bored of it like he gets bored of everything else. And I just worry that you’re relying too much on someone who is feckless and unreliable —

Chelsea: Adam, stop it. Just stop. I’ve heard enough.

Diane: [ Breathes deeply ]

Kyle: Well, well, well, what do we have here?

Diane: Oh. Oh, nothing. I was just, um, dropping off some papers for jack.

Kyle: Mm-hmm. You looked like you were daydreaming. Were you thinking about what it’d feel like to be the boss sitting in that chair?

Diane: No, no. This job is beyond my reach.

Kyle: Oh, is it?

Diane: Well, for now. I do have ambition, but this isn’t it. You know, kyle, I have to be very careful. I am determined to keep my work life and my personal life separate.

Kyle: Well, I can appreciate that.

Diane: Yeah, well, I’m sure you — I’m sure you understand it, but it’s a bit different for me, you know? I don’t want anyone here thinking that I’m advancing because I’m, you know, back together with jack.

Kyle: I see. I don’t think that will be a problem. And as far as I’m concerned, we’ll continue to judge you on the quality of your work like we do with all our employees.

Diane: That’s all I’m asking. And now that jeremy stark is out of the picture, I want to look forward and focus on how I can best lend my talents to the mix. Kyle, I think it’s time for me to move up.

Kyle: Well, you’re doing great work now, so keep up the hard work, and we’ll see what happens.

Diane: Well, thanks, but what I’d really like to do is to put my years of experience and my knowledge to the best possible use to help you and summer build on everything you’ve achieved.

Kyle: Mm-hmm. I remember us talking about a possible promotion before the stark situation. Is that what we’re talking about now?

Diane: Well, it is, and it — and it isn’T. I mean, I do love pr, but i think there are some other areas where I could really make a real contribution.

Kyle: Mm.

Diane: Like — like, thinking about it, uh, what about marchetti home? It would be the perfect division for me. I used to stage homes all the time when I was a real estate agent in L.A. It’d be a match made in heaven.

Kyle: I hadn’t thought of that.

Diane: Yeah, it’s a perfect fit, kyle. You need someone to fill phyllis’s gigantic shoes. And I know it’s probably hard to find someone, but maybe that’s because you’re just not looking in the right place. Look no further.

Kyle: Wait. [ Chuckles ] You’re actually angling for phyllis’s old job? Hi, I’m angela.

Chelsea: It’s none of your business if I decide to spend time with billy. I don’t need your permission or approval as to who I can be friends with.

Adam: I’m not trying to imply that you do.

Chelsea: Okay, adam, um, i don’t think this is about jealousy because we’re way past that, so I think it’s just about good old-fashioned hatred, and you need to get over it.

Adam: [ Chuckling ] Okay. Um, I can’t think of one reason why I should.

Chelsea: I’ll give you two reasons — me and connor.

Adam: [ Breathes deeply ]

Chelsea: I know you care about me, and I know you want me to get better. And you have been supportive in every other way. But the fact that you can’t acknowledge that I’m capable of making my own decisions and that — you know, you need to accept the fact that billy’s gonna be a part of our life. You’re making this about you and your feelings, adam, and it’s the opposite of being helpful.

Adam: Okay, I know what he is capable of.

Chelsea: So do I.

Adam: [ Inhales deeply ] Okay. Okay, fine. Alright, I really did have good intentions, and I really don’t want there to be friction between us, so I will try harder for you and for connor.

Chelsea: Thank you.

Adam: Alright? I said my piece, so I won’t bring it up again.

Chelsea: Well, I appreciate that.

Adam: Billy is your “special friend.” But if he hurts you, I’m telling you I will not let that go.

Chelsea: Adam, it’s my life. So, whatever happens, you have to learn to accept it.

Billy: You know, my breakup with lily — it doesn’t have anything to do with chelsea.

Victoria: I am just saying that you’ve been spending an awful lot of time with her.

Billy: And the boys. Yes.

Victoria: You were engaged to each other once upon a time.

Billy: Okay, vick, do you want to tell me where you’re going with this?

Victoria: You both just went through a very dark and confusing time together.

Billy: Yes, that is true. And?

Victoria: And maybe in the process of trying to help her, you managed to form a deeper connection based on the intensity of the emotional situation that you went through. She needed your help, and maybe you realized that you could be her hero.

Billy: I wouldn’t go so far to say that.

Victoria: Well, neither would I…but she might. You saved her life. You made her feel like she was worth saving and worth your friendship. And maybe she made you feel like the hero in a storybook. Maybe she even gave you a little bit of a chance to rewrite history and save someone that you care about. That’s not a bad thing. All I’m saying is, if there’s something more developing between you two than friendship, I just hope you take your time. You should also know that it would behoove you to realize how your actions affect other people, like your daughter, katie. She’s a little bit jealous that you and johnny have been spending so much time with chelsea and connor.

Billy: Thank you. I didn’t realize.

Victoria: Well, now you know. You need to be aware of what this means to your family.

Diane: I wouldn’t say I’m angling for phyllis’s job, but it is strange that the position at marchetti home fits right in line with my skill set.

Kyle: Yes, it’s strange, alright, but you have to understand what a combustible situation that would be.

Diane: Well, I don’t understand why.

Kyle: If phyllis finds out you’ve taken her old job, she will go ballistic. She will take this place apart brick by brick until she finds you.

Diane: You’re exaggerating. That wouldn’t be rational. She doesn’t even work here anymore.

Kyle: I’m sorry. Have you met phyllis? Is “rational” a word you would use to describe her?

Diane: No. But I promise you, kyle, this isn’t about me finding a way to get back at phyllis. I mean, who has time for all that?

Kyle: It’s about appearances, mom.

Diane: What?

Kyle: Out of all the jobs at jabot, you feel like you would be most helpful taking over after she was fired?

Diane: I can’t worry about appearances, kyle. But I do know that I am very qualified for the job. In addition to my experience as a real estate agent, I was an extremely successful architect. I understand form and function as a part of design. There is so much I could bring to the table. My goal is for you to realize your dream in the most effective way possible. So let me help you.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] Okay. Why now? Why are you coming to me about this now? What’s different today than two weeks ago?

Diane: Well, for one, jeremy stark is no longer a threat to my life. And now that jack and I have grown closer, I’ve — I’ve been looking around, and I love seeing how closely all the abbotts work together. You know, you, summer, jack, even ashley, all working together for the family business. It’s wonderful. And it’s how it should be. And I want to be part of that. I want to be part of the family.

Kyle: So, this job is less about ambition and more about belonging to something.

Diane: Yes. That’s it, kyle. I mean, I-I love seeing how closely all of the abbotts work together towards a common goal. And I want to belong to that.

[ Sighs ] Look, I know this probably sounds ridiculous to you, doesn’t it?

Kyle: Not at all, mom. Not at all. How white do you think your teeth really are?

Diane: I’m — I’m sorry. I know that sounds silly to you.

Kyle: What? Wanting to be a part of a family? I think that’s a perfectly natural thing to want.

Diane: No, I mean wanting to be a top-level executive just so that I can feel like part of a family. It doesn’t — it doesn’t make any sense. But jabot is such an integral part of the abbotts. You know, it’s the same way for the newmans. And — and phyllis is even working with her son, daniel. So, working with family does make sense. And, kyle, I just want to contribute and be part of it.

Kyle: Sure. But there are other ways to be a part of the family without running an entire division of the company.

Diane: You know, I had a feeling you wouldn’t understand. You’ve been surrounded by a loving family your whole life.

Kyle: Not always. There was a time where I didn’t have a mother.

Diane: [ Sighs ] Okay. That’s a fair point.

Kyle: Mom, I’m — look, I’m sorry. I want you to feel like you belong to the abbotts — because you do. But I can’t just give you this job. I will talk to summer, though, and we will revisit it. You may be qualified and have good ideas, but let’s be sure it’s a good fit, alright?

Diane: Alright. I-I appreciate that. Thank you.

Jack: I wasn’t expecting to see you two.

Diane: Oh, I was just, um, dropping off some papers, and then kyle and I had a very productive conversation.

Jack: Glad to hear it.

Kyle: I was about to go to the marketing meeting, but i don’t seem to have my —

Jack: Looking for this?

Kyle: Yeah. Thanks. I just realized I didn’t have it. I was wondering why I wasn’t getting any messages. And summer has called me three times.

Diane: Where is she?

Kyle: She’s visiting a factory in waukesha, but she should be back soon. I should check in with her anyways. Excuse me.

Jack: Hey. You okay?

Diane: Oh, yeah, I’m fine. We were just — we were just talking.

Jack: About what?

Diane: Oh, family. Are you okay? You seemed so happy this morning, and now you seem a little agitated. Did you talk to kyle this morning?

Jack: Yeah, briefly.

Diane: Well, I mean, he seems to have accepted that we’re back together. Did you get a different sense from him?

Jack: He does seem to have accepted things, yeah. He just wants us to take it easy, to go slow.

Diane: [ Laughing ] Well, it’s taken us decades to get here. How much slower can we go?

Jack: Yeah, you make a good point.

Diane: Alright, well, there must be something else bothering you.

Jack: I have to prepare for what promises to be a very uncomfortable conversation with my son.

Diane: About what?

Jack: About victor’s plan to undermine adam here at jabot. Kyle is more involved than he’s let on.

Victor: Thank you, william. That’s very nice of you. I appreciate it. Yep.

Victoria: Good call?

Victor: Yeah. That was an interesting call. I just talked to a guy who’s on the board of the bank that holds tucker’s debt. And he indicated that he might be willing to offer it to us for less than face value.

Victoria: I appreciate your attempts to lower our costs, but we’re already in the process of buying off tucker’s debt. It’ll be cleaner and faster to just pay the going rate.

Victor: But, sweetheart, you want to move that quickly?

Victoria: Yes, before tucker knows what hit him.

Victor: Oh. You know, I’ve always admired that about you, admired your focus. You’re decisive. You go after what you want. I just wish that your brother adam would use all of his abilities and instincts. Instead, they’re lying fallow at jabot with that B.S. Job he has there.

Victoria: I have every faith that jack has found a hundred different ways for adam to prove himself and adam has found just as many to dash his hopes.

Victor: Imagine what we could all accomplish around here if adam applied his business acumen and intelligence to our company.

Victoria: Daddy, you’ve never been one to indulge in wishful thinking. So I assume that you’re going to now tell me what your plans are for your prodigal son.

Adam: [ Breathes deeply ]

Connor: Tell me how you fixed the printer.

Adam: Oh, a magician never reveals his secrets.

Connor: Don’t you want me to be self-sufficient and know how to fix the printer myself? Then I won’t have to send you an sos first thing in the morning.

Adam: Then where am I gonna get to showcase my magical abilities?

Connor: What did you do? Reboot? Reconnect the network?

Adam: You know what? Why don’t you tell me your secret? How did you write such a compelling book report?

Connor: Easy. I read the book.

Adam: [ Laughs ] Geez, now, why didn’t I think of that?

Connor: And I talked to mom about it. She asked me questions about it, which made me think of the story in a different way. And the report kind of wrote itself, like magic.

Adam: See? Runs in the family. You’ve been dealing with all sorts of complicated stuff lately.

Connor: Like what?

Adam: Well, you know, finding out about johnny and everything your mother’s going through and billy hanging out at the apartment all the time.

Connor: Billy’s okay. And mom seems happier. She laughs and smiles more. So, that’s good, right?

Adam: [ Scoffs ] You kidding? That’S… that is fantastic. But I just want you to know if things ever feel less than great or if you ever need anyone to talk to, I’m always here to listen.

Connor: Yeah. I know.

Adam: Okay.

Billy: Hey, connor. What do you know?

Adam: Uh, apparently not enough, which is why we got to get to school. Hey, will you, um — will you wait for me in the car?

Connor: Sure. See you, billy.

Billy: See you later. Hey, good luck on that book report, alright? Let me guess. You have an opinion about me and chelsea going out for dinner together.

Adam: Oh…yes, I do.

Jack: Kyle was in such a hurry to get to work, he left his phone at home. And he got a text.

Diane: And you found the phone and read the message.

Jack: From victor newman, thanking kyle for his help with “the adam matter” and telling him to “stay tuned.”

Diane: Well, could it mean something else? I mean, maybe you’ve misinterpreted it.

Jack: No, there’s nothing ambivalent about this. He’s been lying to me all along.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Kyle: I know what the reaction would be, summer, but we can’t dismiss her just because your mom would be upset. More than upset. I know. Look, I told her we would consider it, but not yet. Give it some time. Maybe she’ll forget all about it.

Diane: It’s not in kyle’s nature to be duplicitous. Why would he lie like that?

Jack: I think it all boils down to adam.

Diane: What, he hates him that much?

Jack: Well, I don’t think there’s any love lost between the two of them, but, no, i think it is more about a combination of victor wanting adam out of here and kyle never forgiving me for having hired adam in the first place.

Diane: That sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Jack: It is. Nothing good can come of the two of them colluding together. And this wouldn’t be the first time that kyle became part of victor’s plan.

Diane: What? I don’t like the sound of that.

Jack: I’ll fill you in on that later, but you should know right now that for a period while you were gone, kyle and victor were very close.

Diane: Really?

Jack: I just never expected this kind of betrayal.

[ Breathes deeply ]

Victoria: Nicholas told me that you have something in the works to lure adam back to work here.

Victor: What are your thoughts?

Victoria: Bringing adam back would be a mistake. He has a huge chip on his shoulder. Every meeting will become contentious. He’ll put a drag on anything that we hope to accomplish, especially if you try to force him out of jabot and make this the only game in town.

Victor: Sweetheart, this is where he belongs, and he knows it.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Despite evidence to the contrary, how many job offers of yours has he turned down anyway?

Victor: I think adam will return, and he just needs to be shown the respect that he craves and deserves.

Victoria: You know, I was wrong before when I said that you didn’t engage in wishful thinking — because that’s exactly what this is. And speaking as your daughter right now, I can only see this ending in one way — with you getting hurt badly.

Adam: I have all kinds of opinions about you and who you are and what you do…

Billy: Yeah.

Adam: …And why you do it.

Billy: Well, I’m sure you do.

Adam: Mm-hmm. That’s actually not why I wanted to talk to you today.

Billy: Okay. Go ahead. Let’s hear it.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Chelsea mentioned that she wanted to get connor and johnny together again. And since they had such a wonderful time when you took them ice skating, I thought that I would step up, do my part.

Billy: Is that right?

Adam: Mm-hmm. So I thought I could find something that they enjoy and make a day of it.

Billy: Well, that sounds good. I’m sure johnny would really enjoy that.

Adam: That’s good.

Billy: Anything else, adam? (Vo) morning, noon, night.

Victor: My sweet girl, I am very touched by your concern for me. But you don’t have to worry about a thing. Adam ain’t gonna attack me, okay? And if he does, I can take care of myself.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Well, then let me tell you what I see.

Victor: What?

Victoria: A man who blames you for everything that has gone wrong in his life, all because of what happened after he caused that man’s death when he was a boy. Look, I know that you tried to protect him, but he has used that as an all-purpose excuse for the mess that he’s made of his life.

Victor: There’s some truth to that.

Victoria: And what’s worse, that he’s — he’s even convinced you that you’re the one to blame for his life and that you deserve all the hurtful things that he has done to you because you had the temerity to love him, including increasing the dosage on your medication. He put your life at risk. You didn’t deserve that, dad. You don’t owe him anything. And if you keep sticking your neck out there for adam, he’s going to cut it off. I’m just asking you to please — just don’t put yourself in a situation where adam blames you for his failure and takes it out on you. You just need to find some way to let him go.

Adam: Well, I’ll let connor know that you’re on board with me taking everyone to the skating rink again. You know, maybe we’ll find something more interesting to do.

Billy: Yeah. Sure. Knock yourself out.

Adam: Great. So, I’ll be in touch to set up a time and date.

Billy: Okay, adam. Looking forward to it.

Chelsea: What happened?

Billy: Nothing. Actually, uh, I was about ready to, you know, brace myself for him to tear into me because we went out for dinner together, but nothing happened. He was astonishingly restrained. Did you say something to him?

Chelsea: Uh, yeah, actually. I told him he needed to stop the fighting, and he agreed to back off. I just didn’t think he’d actually do it.

[ Laughs ]

Billy: Well, this doesn’t happen very often, but I’m gonna give him his props. He kept his promise to you, and he, uh, kept his opinions to himself.

Chelsea: Well, I have to be honest with you, um, and warn you — he’s not too thrilled over the fact that we’re spending time together.

Billy: Huh. That’s funny. I had a very similar conversation with victoria.

Chelsea: Huh! Did you, now? Opinions — everybody’s got one.

Billy: They do. How does that sit with you?

Kyle: I just wanted to thank you again for bringing my phone.

Diane: Is summer okay?

Kyle: Yeah. She’s back in town. She’ll be here shortly.

Diane: Oh, good. Well, lesson learned. Keep your phone close.

Kyle: Yeah, I usually do. I just forgot today. And we had to reschedule the marketing meeting because they weren’t able to get a hold of me. Is that why you’re mad?

Jack: It’s not.

Diane: I hate to run, but i need to revise a press release. I’ll leave you two to talk.

[ Door closes ]

Kyle: So, what’s going on?

Jack: I don’t know. You tell me.

Kyle: Look, I’m sorry. I messed up. I missed the meeting. It was a mistake. It won’t happen aga–

Jack: This isn’t about a meeting. I couldn’t give a damn about the meeting.

Kyle: Okay, then what’s it about? What’s going on?

Jack: You’ve been lying to me.

Hey! Did you hear?

Chelsea: I’m dealing with important issues right now, getting back into the swing of things, taking care of myself, being healthy. I mean, I can’t believe I wasted all that energy worrying about what people at society thought we were doing there together.

Billy: There you go.

Chelsea: I mean, so what if abby — or anybody else, for that matter — thought we were on a date? Who cares?

Billy: Hell, yeah.

Chelsea: Hell, yeah!

[ Both laugh ] And, you know, I really appreciated the way that you very smoothly told that server that we were not, in fact, on a date.

Billy: Yeah, I did that. Not so smooth, but thank you.

Chelsea: I mean, listen, I’ve done way worse than go on a date with the likes of you.

Billy: I appreciate that. It’s by far the best compliment I’ve had all day.

Chelsea: [ Laughs ] Listen, if the worst thing people can say about me is I went on a date, then I’m doing something right. I’m not gonna get bent out of shape over what people think about me anymore. I’m grateful for where I’m at, where we’re at. Friends.

Billy: Friends.

Victoria: You know, adam doesn’t want to be a part of this family. He’s made that perfectly clear. You should take him at his word.

Victor: Sweetheart, whatever he says, whatever he claims, he belongs with this family. He belongs with me. He’s part of me, okay?

Victoria: I’m not saying that he doesn’t want to be a newman. I’m just saying he wants to be the only newman. That makes him dangerous and unpredictable.

Victor: I’m not worried about that. I’ve tried many times to, you know, shut him out and… been angry with him, disillusioned with him. I just can’t, you know? And I don’t want to. All I can tell you is that whatever plans I have devised for him to come back here and be part of this is not gonna impact our company negatively, nor is it gonna impact you badly.

Victoria: But, daddy…

Victor: What?

Victoria: …What about you? You’ve always been his target. You have the most to lose here.

Jack: In the message, victor thanked you for helping with the adam matter and asked that you stay tuned. What am I misunderstanding here?

Kyle: I-I don’t know. I haven’t read the message.

Jack: It’s on your phone. Take a look.

Kyle: Maybe victor sent it to the wrong number.

Jack: Oh, you think that’s it? He mistakenly sent you a message about adam?

Kyle: Maybe. I-I-I don’t know.

Jack: I do know! You have been colluding with victor newman behind my back, trying to sabotage adam here at jabot. I know that! What I don’t know is why. Why are you so determined to run adam out of jabot?

Jack: As wonderful as it has been having breakfast with you, I do have to get to the office.

Diane: [ Chuckles ] And as much as I’ve enjoyed this time together, I need to get to work eventually, too. But the first thing I need to do is go back to the hotel and get a change of clothes.

Jack: Well, that’s awfully inconvenient. I know it’s early in our relationship, but you are more than welcome to leave a few things here. I just hate that you have to race to the hotel any morning that you decided to spend the night.

Diane: Well, that’s a great idea, but I’m a little concerned how kyle will react.

Jack: Oh, I think a couple changes of clothes are not going to alarm kyle. Besides, we can be discreet. We don’t have to flaunt it.

Diane: Alright, you’ve convinced me.

Jack: Okay. I have one errand before I go in, so why don’t you go get your things, bring them here, and I’ll help you get them upstairs before I go to jabot.

Diane: Okay. Ah, you know, I have to admit, this is making me a little nervous. Are we tempting fate to be this happy?

Jack: This time, fate is on our side.

Diane: Mm.

Chloe: Hi. I got your text message. What’s the emergency?

Sally: I told nick everything.

Chloe: Everything? As in, adam could be the baby’s father?

Sally: Yeah.

Chloe: How did he take it?

Sally: Better than I could’ve hoped. He was sweet and understanding, as always, and he claimed it didn’t change anything between us.

Chloe: Okay, well, if nick is saying and doing all the right things, then why are you so concerned?

Sally: Because what if he’s only doing everything right because he feels like he has to? Maybe he’s just hedging because the baby might be his, but if that’s not the case and the father is actually adam, nick could walk away.

Elena: If only you could take a personal day off from work and stay home with me.

Nate: Ah, I’m so tempted. Believe me, I’d love nothing more. And I’ve missed you, too. But you’ve already made me a little late.

Elena: Aw, don’t tell me you regret our little interlude.

Nate: Not even a little bit. But I have a lot going on at work today, and I need to get to the office.

Elena: [ Clicks tongue ] Okay. Well, it could’ve been fun doing all your favorite things.

Nate: Mm, you need to stop tempting me. But hold that thought, because I promise you, this weekend will just be you and me. We’ll have a romantic getaway. Okay? No work, no phones, no late-night shifts. Just us.

Victor: Well, now. My goodness. Jack abbott. Should I be hiding the silver and the jewelry and all that? I mean, now that you’ve resorted to becoming a thief to become relevant.

Jack: I didn’t come here to play your games, victor. I came here to offer a word of warning.

Victor: Oh, really? Well, you have a lot of nerve, man. I could turn you into the authorities.

Jack: I’ve been made aware of your plot to undermine adam’s work at jabot. Additionally, you’ve tried to enlist my son in your effort.

Victor: How’d you learn that?

Jack: Doesn’t matter how I found out. You may have lost your own son. I will be damned if you use mine for your little underhanded plot. I brought in ensure max protein

Victor: Hate to disappoint you, jack, but I have no intention of undermining my son, adam. He’s doing a very good job all by himself. But you and I know that he doesn’t belong at jabot. He’s doing a terrible job there. Which does not speak very well for you as a mentor and a boss. How would you allow someone to perform at a subpar level?

Jack: You seem to be privy to inside information.

Victor: Instead of coming here and leveling unfounded accusations against me, why don’t you go home and try to somehow salvage that train wreck of a relationship between you and diane jenkins? Although, I must say, I love watching it all go up in flames.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

[ Chuckles ]

[ Knock on door ]

Elena: Tessa.

Tessa: Hi. Uh, do you have a shift you have to get to? Or bed, maybe?

Elena: No, I just finished my night shift. Come on in. I’ve always got time for a friend.

Tessa: Thank you.

Elena: So, what’s going on? Is everything okay with mariah? The baby?

Victoria: What is going on with you? You’ve been distracted for days.

Nick: Nothing for you to worry about. Everything’s fine.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] You know, you can’t hide from me. I can tell that something is weighing on you. Maybe I can help.

Nick: I’m not denying there’s something on my mind. There just isn’t anything you can do about it.

Victoria: Well, judging by the way that you’re shutting me out, I can only assume that this has to do with sally.

Nick: I guess you weren’t listening when I said it doesn’t concern you.

Victoria: I don’t understand. Why would you be involved with somebody that completely alienates you from the rest of your family the way that sally does? You know, after what I went through with ashland, I know how damaging and painful something like this can be. And the fact that you won’t even talk about it maybe is a sign that it shouldn’t be happening in the first place.

Nick: I’m not talking about this with you or dad. Sally is off limits.

Chloe: You need to just trust in nick. Whether or not the baby is his, I don’t believe for a minute he would treat you any differently.

Sally: Well, when I told him about adam, he said that the possibility had already occurred to him. He wasn’t completely caught off guard, but then he left almost immediately. But he claimed that he had to get home to christian.

Chloe: Oh, well, yeah, of course he did, because he’s an amazing father.

Sally: Yeah, but that’s the problem. What if he’s not my baby’s father? What if adam is?

Chloe: Okay, don’t even entertain that thought. It’s just not worth it.

Sally: How can you say that? Ignoring that reality is just stupid and naive. If adam is the father, it changes everything, especially between me and nick.

Chloe: I just don’t think it’s that cut and dried with nick. It’s not who he is. He won’t walk away.

Sally: Regardless, I can’t take any more of this. Seriously, this tension is driving me crazy. I called the dna lab before I texted you. The paternity test is set for this afternoon. They’ll just draw some blood for me, and then they will need to take a swab from the potential fathers. Nick…and…adam.

Chloe: You can’t tell adam about the pregnancy. That would be a mistake.

Sally: You don’t know that. And adam is an amazing father to connor, and he already makes the co-parenting thing with an ex work with chelsea.

Chloe: Well, better safe than sorry when it comes to someone that impulsive and unpredictable.

Sally: I can’t have this uncertainty hanging over my head. I just need to get it all out in the open and deal with it. So I just need your help trying to figure out what to say to adam. How do I tell him?

Chloe: Okay, let’s just slow down for a second and let’s really think this through.

Sally: If adam is the father, I have to tell him.

Chloe: Okay, I… I understand that. But let’s not forget that there is a very good chance that he’s not. So you should do the test with nick first, and if he’s the father — and, please, god, let that be the case — then adam never even needs to know that there is a possibility that he could be the father.

Sally: And if it’s not nick’s baby?

Chloe: Well, then and only then, do you even consider bringing adam into the equation.

Sally: But is that really fair to adam, letting him be the last to know?

Chloe: No. In most cases, it wouldn’t be, but adam only recently stopped stalking you.

Sally: Okay, that’s a bit of an exaggeration. He was… more of a pest.

Chloe: Okay, whatever you want to call it. But if adam knows that there was even a chance that he could be the father, even if the test shows that nick is the dad, adam will use it as an open invitation. And the last thing you need right now is giving adam an excuse to come storming into your life.

[ Knock on door ]

[ Both sigh ]

Nick: Hey, chloe.

Chloe: Hi, nick.

Nick: Hi.

[ Door closes ]

Chloe: Um, well, it looks like you’re in good hands, so i will leave you to it and, um… just know if you need anything, anything at all, just shoot me a text.

Sally: Thank you.

[ Door opens, closes ]

Nick: She is a good friend. You’re lucky to have her.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Tessa: So there mariah and i were, about to hop on the next flight after delphine called us because she told us she was going into labor.

Elena: So she wasn’t?

Tessa: No. We were headed to the airport when she called us again and told us it was, um, uh, braxton hicks, a false alarm?

Elena: Ah, no, that’s very common. And since the baby’s do any day now, you can just think of it as a dress rehearsal for the real thing.

Tessa: Which I’m thankful for, because, you know, we want to be there when the baby is born.

Elena: I hope it works out for you guys.

Tessa: Thank you. But, honestly, it really freaked me out. It made me realize that something could go wrong during the birth. And I know this is probably just residual anxiety because of mariah and dom, but I just have to hear it from a professional. Is there anything I can do to ensure that the baby’s going to be okay?

Jack: I’d like to think you have better things to do with your time than worry about my personal life.

Victor: If I were you, i would start worrying about yourself.

Michael: Oh.

[ Clears throat ] What is that I detect in the air?

Victor: Nothing, nothing at all. Everything okay. Right, jack?

Michael: Um, I need to have a word with you, but if I need to go and come back —

Jack: No, no, don’T. Don’t worry. I’m leaving. But not before I offer one last warning. Stay out of jabot’s affairs, even if they include adam. You lost him as an employee and a son. That’s on you. Maybe you should make peace with that.

Michael: Wow.

Victor: Have a seat, michael.

Michael: [ Chuckles ] Thank you.

Victor: So? Any more news about tucker mccall?

Michael: As a matter of fact, there is. I’ve been doing some more digging into his loans. The man is in quite a lot of debt, or, actually, his company is. And as you’d hoped, buying up mccall’s loans will give newman quite a bit of leverage, but, unfortunately, not outright control.

Victor: Hmm.

Michael: That’ll take a little more convincing, and, as you and I both know, tucker’s not easily intimidated.

Victor: You know, I love a challenge, and I’m looking forward to dealing with that S.O.B.

Tucker: Uh-oh, there she is. Where are you headed off to now? Is that your escape bag? Is your partner in crime stark back?

Diane: [ Scoffs ]

Tucker: You know, it’d be so ironic if you were to leave town right after phyllis. I bet she would — she would hop on the first flight back here asap if she knew you were going to be gone for good.

Diane: Whatever. And I am sorry to disappoint you, but I’m not going anywhere. My life is more on track now than it’s ever been. Although yours, not so much. Oh, hey, where is ashley these days? Oh, that’s right. She fled genoa city for paris just to get away from you. Sad.

Tucker: Yeah, I think she’s going to be back pretty soon.

Diane: Mm.

Tucker: But I’m happy to hear that your life is back on track, as you say. But it’s a happiness that’s yours to lose.

[ Hums indistinctly ]

Diane: [ Sighs ] (Vo) morning, noon, night.

Elena: The first thing I want to tell you is I think that it’s great that you already want to protect the baby. It’s a very natural maternal instinct. Now, I’ve got some good news and some bad news for you. The bad news is that there’s not really much that you and mariah can do outside of just being there for delphine when the time comes. So the best thing that you can do is be on standby and be ready to be the best mothers that you can be.

Tessa: Is there anything else you can suggest?

Elena: Well, that’s where the good news comes in. You can stop worrying. The probability of having a complication during a full-term delivery after a healthy pregnancy is very low.

Tessa: Oh. Thank god.

Elena: [ Chuckles ]

Tessa: I guess I just have to keep reminding myself that delphine is giving birth in a hospital under perfectly normal circumstances.

Elena: [ Chuckles ] Exactly. So you have no reason to think anything is going to go wrong. So, tell me, are you and mariah preparing to go to portland?

Tessa: Yes, we are going to be leaving soon. Mariah has some loose ends to tie up at work so that she can work remotely while we are waiting for the baby to come.

Elena: Great. Alright, so you want to tell me what else is going on? ‘Cause it’s very clear that you’re still holding something back.

Tessa: Mariah’s been pregnant before, so she’s familiar with what’s going on. And delphine is carrying the baby, and she’s had nine months to prepare for childbirth. And then there’s me who is completely unprepared for childbirth and…motherhood.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Jack: Hey.

Diane: Hi.

Jack: Did you get everything?

Diane: Yeah. Mm.

Jack: So if you need a toothbrush or anything like that, I can certainly accommodate you.

Diane: I appreciate your hospitality, but I think I’ve got everything.

Jack: What about your stuff in L.A.? I’m guessing you left a lot of possessions there. I could arrange to have it sent for and stored here, if you like.

Diane: Um, thank you, but — but no, no. My years in L.A. Hardly feel real to me anymore. I mean, I know that’s where i healed, but I don’t really have a connection to that time. I mean, whatever’s left there is just stuff, and I think those things belong right where they are.

Jack: Then they should stay in california.

Diane: Tell me, jack, is it wrong to be this happy, especially knowing no one else will be happy for us?

Jack: The people that care about us, the people that love us will come around. The rest don’t even matter.

Diane: Mm.

Tucker: Hey, ashley, it’s me. I assumed that you let it go straight to voicemail ’cause you’re seeing it’s me calling. I get that. The reason I’m calling is I’m wondering if you would give me the opportunity to clear the air between us. There’s a lot of things I want to tell you, and I want to come clean about every aspect of my situation, because I want you to understand why… why the subterfuge, as foolish as it was. So I’m wondering, would you be willing to meet me if I came to paris briefly? We’d just have lunch and chat, but that’s all I ask. Alright, bye.

[ Cellphone thuds lightly ]

Nate: I was, um, just about to come see you. Is this a good time?

Victoria: I’m on my way back to my office right now. Do you want to walk with me?

Nate: Okay, um, I thought it might be a good idea if we clear the air about, uh —

Victoria: Our brainstorming session last night. Um…yes. You know, I was very invigorated by what we accomplished.

Nate: Yes, uh, I thought it was a productive meeting, too.

Victoria: We should have more meetings like that. Don’t you think?

Sally: First of all, I just wanted to see how you were doing. I wasn’t really sure where things stood whenever you left last night.

Nick: I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think about it all the time, but, sally, it doesn’t change anything. I’m with you, just like I promised.

Sally: That’s the thing. I don’t understand why. The only explanation that I can come up with for you supporting me is because the situation forces you to, like, the baby that I’m carrying might be yours, but what if it’s not?

Nick: Do you not understand how I feel about you yet? Look, I appreciate you telling me the truth about adam, that he may be the father, but… I know it was hard for you. It just makes me respect and appreciate and care about you even more. As far as the paternity of the baby goes, sally, we’ll just cross that bridge when we come to it.

Sally: Well, I had to tell you I couldn’t wait another second. I can’t deal with this uncertainty any longer, which is the main reason why I asked you to come right away. I scheduled the dna test for today. How do I love thee?

Nate: I agree. Our brainstorming session was very productive. We should have more of them. We could potentially lay a clear and lucrative path to the future.

Victoria: On a purely professional level, of course.

Nate: Of course.

Victor: Hello. Hello, nate.

Nate: Hello.

Victor: Nate, would you mind if michael and I had a conversation with victoria alone?

Elena: While I haven’t had any firsthand experience with pregnancy, either, I have worked with a lot of mothers, and I can tell you that what you’re experiencing is very normal. In fact, I have yet to meet any first-time mothers, biological or otherwise, who haven’t at one point or another felt, on some level, completely overwhelmed and unprepared for what’s next.

Tessa: Yeah, I mean, it’s pretty terrifying thinking about all that responsibility.

Elena: There’s nothing trivial about taking care of another life, especially a newborn, because it can’t do anything for themselves. You know, they only can communicate by crying instead of talking. They need to be carried. They need to be fed. They need to be changed. But I have no doubt you have everything it takes to be a great mother.

Tessa: But I have no idea what to do.

Elena: Yeah, and there are some skills that you’ll have to develop, like changing diapers and feeding and setting a sleeping schedule. But then there are going to be things that are pure instinct, like loving and caring and nurturing. And those are all things that you are very familiar with. Tessa, I’ve seen how amazing you can be. I remember when mariah was struggling with giving dominic to abby. You were her rock. You comforted her, you loved her, and you helped her get back to the amazing person that she is. And the way I see it, you coming here, it just proves that you’re ready.

Tessa: What do you mean?

Elena: Coming to me, hoping to find any way possible to shield your daughter from harm even before she’s born. That little baby is going to be beyond lucky to have not only one, but two of the strongest, most loving women as her mothers.

Adam: Hey, chloe, wait. Can — can you just give me one second?

Chloe: Why would I want to do that?

Adam: Look, chloe, I realize that you hate me, and I don’t expect that to change anytime soon, but you know me as well as anyone, for better or worse, and I know you care about sally. I’m genuinely concerned about her right now. You must see that.

Chloe: All I see is you trying to worm your way back into her life.

Adam: Listen, come on. I know that something is wrong. And don’t tell me that she’s worried about your new business venture or this — this lame line that nick was giving me, that she’s uncomfortable being around the both of us. Sally’s much tougher than that. This is something new. I mean, is she unhappy with nick? Is it not working out between the two of them?

Chloe: [ Scoffs ] Why are we doing this again? And why are you meddling in sally’s life? Hasn’t she made it perfectly clear that she wants nothing to do with you? And what more do nick and sally need to do to convince you that what they share is real? I mean, they are bonded together now.

Adam: Bonded? How?

Chloe: I mean, even if things with nick weren’t amazing, which they are, why would sally want you? Don’t you have something else to obsess over? I mean, don’t you have a job, or do you not have actual responsibilities? Or, hmm, was it just a pity handout to keep you off the streets and out of trouble? I never get tired of this.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Jack: I wonder who that could be.

Adam: Jack, uh, I hope now’s not a bad time, but I need to speak with you about jabot.

Jack: Uh, can you give me a minute?

Diane: I will make myself scarce, but we will continue this later.

Jack: Come on in. Everything alright?

Adam: Um…

Jack: Something wrong?

Adam: No, I just — I wanted to speak with you about my potential future in the company, you know, before things get potentially ugly with victor and kyle.

Jack: Oh, wait, now, let me stop you right there. I don’t know where you’re getting your information. I spoke to kyle at length, and he assured me he had no part in victor’s little scheme.

Adam: Okay, well, I’m not so sure about that, jack. I spoke to people at the company, and it turns out kyle has looked into some of the projects that I’m directly overseeing. Now, I understand they haven’t turned out to be successful ventures, as we hoped, but that is not public knowledge.

Jack: I spoke to victor earlier. He did seem to know an awful lot about your diminished performance.

Adam: Yeah, I’m sorry about that. I’m working on turning things around. But regardless, I think it’s pretty clear that your son is lying to you.

Nick: [ Clicks tongue ] I am surprised you scheduled the dna test so soon. Have you talked to adam yet?

Sally: No. And after speaking with chloe, I’ve decided that I am going to tell adam only if I have to.

Nick: Meaning if I am not the father.

Adam: I just don’t invite that chaos back in my life if I can avoid it. Right now, things are good, and I need to hold onto that for as long as I can, so I thought I would start with just testing your dna.

Nick: Well, it’s your decision to make. I will support you no matter what.

Sally: If we’re really in this together, I need you to be completely honest with me.

Nick: Have I ever been anything but?

Sally: No, and that’s what I’m counting on. How would you feel if I told adam that he could potentially be the father even before the test? Is that what you want?

Nick: Um… I’m okay with it in the sense that it is not my decision to make. As far as adam knowing, I absolutely do not want him to know. I hope he never has to know. I’m just trying to do the right thing here. But when and if you decide to tell him, just know I will completely have you back.

Sally: Well, thank you so much for being understanding. It means everything to me. If you’re free, would you mind coming with me to the testing center so they can swab you to see if you’re a match? Then we can know for sure. And maybe we could put this whole issue to rest sooner rather than later.

Nick: I’ll make time for that.

Tessa: Thank you for your kind words and your faith in me. It is exactly what I needed to hear.

Elena: Well, it was all true. Every word.

Tessa: I wish we could bring you to portland with us, if only for advice and pep talks.

Elena: You have my number. You can call me any time, day or night.

Tessa: Thank you. So, what’s new with you? I can’t help but seem to notice how happy you are.

Elena: Is it that obvious?

Tessa: Yes. And I am just so glad that things are better for you.

Elena: Yes. Me, too. It was really tense with nate and i during his career transition, and, honestly, I wasn’t sure if we would find our way back to each other. But… here we are, making it work. And, yeah, I am indeed very happy. We both are.

[ Chuckles ]

Nate: Alright, then, I will, um, leave you to your meeting.

Victoria: Well, what is it that you wanted to discuss?

Michael: [ Clicks tongue ] It’s about the purchasing of the debt you and victor discussed.

Nate: I’ll check in with you later, victoria.

Victoria: No, nate, wait. You should be in on this.

Victor: Sweetheart, this does not involve newman media.

Victoria: Well, nonetheless, I think that nate should be in on our plan for tucker and our acquisition of mccall unlimited. I-I believe that he would be a valuable asset to our plan moving forward. Trust me, his input will benefit all of us, daddy. Thank you.

Jill: All I can tell you is that I know what it feels like to have regrets about professional decisions I’ve made. Devon: No, I know you do, and I completely get where you’re coming from. And I don’t want to be the one to hold you back, either, ’cause I believe that, even if chancellor can’t make omega sphere happen, any company with half a brain will scoop up your project.

Daniel: But I came to chancellor because I wanted to work with the two of you.

Nick: I mean, I was right there when he asked you point blank what was wrong with you. He knows you haven’t been yourself lately.

Sally: Yeah, I, um… I don’t know. Things have been awkward for me around adam. I was hoping maybe he would think it was normal ’cause we’re exes and I’m seeing his brother. And — and no matter how well adam reads me, there’s no reason for him to jump to the baby conclusion.

Sally: And just so you know, so there’s not any doubt, there was only that one time with adam in december. There’s been nothing since.

Sally: It’s just that last time with adam… I knew it was never gonna work with him. Fate wouldn’t be that cruel, right? To make adam the father when it’s finally completely over?

Devon: You got it, man. And listen, the only thing i meant by saying that you only want to work with lily is just ’cause it’s — it’s natural. You gravitate towards people you know, and you and lily — you clearly have a lot of history, so it makes sense. That’s it. And I don’t see a reason why you and her can’t move forward with chancellor once the dust settles.

Daniel: Sure, but I mean, now there’s no guarantees, right?

Devon: Well, I mean, you’re only hearing lily’s side of things.

Daniel: [ Breathes deeply ] You know what? What I know is that lily is going through hell because of your decision to bust up this merger, and I’m not just talking about this because of what’s at stake for me. I mean, come on, man. I just can’t fathom, like, that you would want to hurt her this way.

Devon: I don’t want to hurt her this way. I’m not trying to hurt her, daniel. You don’t know the full story.

Daniel: You’re right. I do not know all the ins and outs, but what I do know — what I know is lily’s heart. And, man, it just doesn’t seem like you have a problem breaking it right now.

Lily: Look, playing devil’s advocate, maybe devon would have never agreed to this merger if he knew we were going public. Maybe he feels like he signed under false pretenses.

Jill: Well, then he’s woefully mistaken. There was no long-term plot to lure him in so we could steal hamilton-winters. The merger was your idea. The ipo was mine. Devon’s been around long enough to know that there is no static in the business world.

Jill: An ipo is a logical and reasonable response, given our profits and our success. He just doesn’t like the plan. So he wants to take his ball and go home. Aw, sweetie, it’s so unfortunate that you got in the middle of this.

Adam: Yeah. She said she was having some problems starting her business. But it just felt like it was something more, maybe something she couldn’t say.

Nick: Maybe she’s just uncomfortable being around both of us at the same time. Look, sally’s tough, but can you imagine how hard that must be for her? And I don’t know when or if that’s gonna change.

Adam: Okay. That’s fair enough.

Chelsea: Yeah, but that was weird, right?

Billy: What part of it?

Chelsea: Well, she totally misinterpreted why we’re here.

Billy: Yeah, she did.

Chelsea: Yeah. She — she thought we were on a date.

Billy: Yeah.

Chelsea: But we’re not on a — wait, do you think this is a date?

Chelsea: And that’s certainly the case with me, you know, especially after everything I’ve been through the past few months.

Billy: That’d be a tricky first-date conversation.

Chelsea: Yeah.

Billy: Look, just to ease your mind — okay? — This is nothing more than two friends just checking in on each other, okay? We’ll enjoy some food. We’ll talk about whatever we want, nothing more. That is my promise to you.

Chelsea: I like the sound of that.

Billy: And just to drive the point home, at the end the night, we’ll split the check.

Chelsea: [ Laughs ] That’s fair.

Diane: Flowers, candles, champagne. And why are you wearing a tux?

Jack: Well, I got out of the shower and I went to the closet and I saw this hanging there. And I thought, “boy, I haven’t worn a tuxedo in a long time.” And I look good in a tuxedo.

Diane: Yes, you certainly do. But, jack, I was just here. How did you pull this together so quickly?

Jack: Oh, I had a little help.

Diane: Oh. Kyle and summer?

Jack: Actually, mrs. Martinez.

Diane: Ah. Ah. Well, I’ll be sure and thank her the next time I see her. You know, this is amazing, but I’m half-expecting the rest of the abbotts to come waltzing through at any minute, and i doubt they’ll be as smitten with your efforts as I am.

Jack: Kyle and summer have taken harrison to the movies. Allie is out with friends. Traci is on a plane on her way to new york to see her publisher. We are alone in this house. You can relax.

Diane: Well, that’s good to know. I know a lot of people are probably thinking the worst of this relationship. They might even think that I was pursuing you all along. But come on. Look at you.

[ Laughs ] Look what you did here tonight. How could I not be falling for you all over again?

Jack: How could you not?

Diane: Mm. [ Chuckles ]

Jack: To hell with the naysayers. To us.

Diane: To us.

[ Glasses clink ]

[ Chuckles ]

Nick: Come on. Talk to me.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Nick: Tell me what’s going on.

Sally: Can we just write it off as hormones? My mind, my body, they’re just — they’re just overwhelmed. And — I don’t know. Everything’s in full-on baby mode right now.

Nick: It seems like there’s more to it than that.

Sally: I don’t know. The whole blood pressure problem got me thinking about so many things that can go wrong bringing a child into this world. That’s not even taking into account when the child’s actually here and having to take care of it and having to raise it. I mean, this is just… this is just my first moment of true and genuine fear. And it definitely won’t be the last. I mean, the child’s not even gonna be here for months, and I’m already a mess? How the hell am I gonna be a mom? I used to pre-rinse dishes cause my old detergent

Victoria: Here you go.

Nate: [ Sniffs ] Wow. Whew. It smells so smooth, it probably drinks itself.

Victoria: 25-year-old single malt. I told you, it’s the good stuff.

Nate: Mmm.

Victoria: Mm-hmm.

Nate: Must be some box we’re stepping out of.

[ Both laugh ]

Victoria: I just thought that it would be nice to step away from the 9:00-to-5:00 corporate structure.

Nate: I thought you thrived in that environment.

Victoria: Well, normally i do, but I learned from my father that sometimes it’s good to mix things up, to escape, to brainstorm, to generate ideas, especially when you have your sights set on a target that might be just a little bit unorthodox.

Nate: You have to think like the target. That makes sense. Mmm. Another one of these, and i might generate all the ideas.

Victoria: Ah, see? I think it’s working.

Nate: Okay, so, what is our target?

Victoria: I want to scoop up omega sphere, and I want to take down mccall unlimited.

Nate: You want to go after tucker mccall? I’ll drink to that.

[ Glasses clink ]

Victoria: That’s right.

Nick: Look, this is completely normal, okay? You’re supposed to have fears about becoming a parent.

Sally: Yeah, but you’re not supposed to be overwhelmed by them.

Nate: Of course you are. Everybody goes through it.

Sally: Even you?

Nick: Yeah, even me. Seriously, I was worried sick with every kid. Now, it did get easier, but it’s still very scary.

Sally: But you’re a natural. I’ve seen you with your kids. You’ve got, like, a dozen world’s best dad mugs.

Nick: Well, if everybody says it, it must be true.

Sally: [ Laughs ]

Nick: Look, I got those mugs ironically. Before noah was born, I wasn’t ready for that. I was a mess, like you are, too, but you’re gonna get through it. I promise. You know, part of the problem is the buildup. Nine months seems like it’s forever. But trust me — it goes by so fast. And then the baby gets here, and everything changes.

Sally: Yeah, then it gets really scary.

Nick: No, no, no. That’s the crazy part. When your baby’s born and you see it and you get to hold it, it’s just — everything makes sense. Right now, everything is like the unknown for you, but I’m telling you, when they hand that baby to you, you can’t imagine loving something that much. The fear goes away, and everything becomes clear to you.

Sally: [ Sniffles ] So, that’s what it was like? It was like this magical transformation the second that noah was born?

Nick: I mean, of course there are some bumps and mistakes along the way. I got to be a dad. You know, my life went in a completely different direction. It was natural. It’s going to be that way for you, too.

Sally: Look, I can believe that you became this outstanding father that you were always meant to be fairly easily. It’s just different for me.

Nick: How so?

Sally: When you were growing up, you had a loving mother and father around. Even if they weren’t always together, you knew that they loved you, right?

Nick: Yeah, of course.

Sally: [ Inhales sharply ] I never had that. I — I learned that people let each other down very young.

[ Sniffles ] And as an adult, I’ve learned to deal with it, but as a child

[Voice breaking] It was devastating. The thought of doing that to my own kid, it just — it makes my chest tighten up so much that i can barely breathe.

[ Sighs, sniffles ]

Nick: [ Smooches ]

Sally: [ Gasps ]

Billy: Ooh [Clicks tongue] I think I’m gonna do the clams and the muscles.

Chelsea: Sounds delicious.

Billy: You know what? I’m definitely not. I’m definitely gonna do the crab enchiladas. I can’t say no to those.

Chelsea: [ Sighs heavily ]

Billy: What’s on your mind?

Chelsea: It’s nothing.

Billy: No, it’s — it’s something because you’ve been here a thousand times. You know everything that’s on that menu, and yet you’ve been staring at it for 10 minutes.

Chelsea: [ Whispering ] Our server.

Billy: [ Whispering ] What about her?

Chelsea: She thinks we’re on a date.

Billy: [ Chuckles ] I think she made an innocent mistake.

Chelsea: Yeah, but what if she knows who we are?

Billy: Yeah, maybe she does. I don’t — I don’t see the problem.

Chelsea: Well, she’s gonna say something to abby, like, “I saw your uncle billy with chelsea lawson on a date.” And then it creates a whole rigamarole, and then your family gets involved. I mean, is that what we want?

Billy: No, no, we definitely do not want my family asking any questions about what’s going on between us. Excuse me?

Chelsea: What are you doing?

Billy: Damage control.

Is everything okay?

Billy: Everything is fantastic. We are just about to order, but, um, something that’s a little bit more important for you to know — um, this is not a date.

Diane: How long have you been planning this?

Jack: Uh, I was gonna do something special on new year’s eve, but we kind of had other things to deal with.

Diane: Yes, I am glad that’s all behind us.

Jack: You know what? I’m glad I waited.

Diane: Why is that?

Jack: Because I’m even more enamored with you than I was just weeks ago.

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: If you haven’t noticed, I’m kind of taken with you.

Diane: Mm. Likewise. And you don’t even need this tux to impress me, although I do appreciate the effort. You know, this is, uh — this is incredible. A year ago, I would have never imagined that this was happening. I didn’t even know if I could return to my old life here. But for the two of us to have found each other again, it takes my breath away. I mean, nobody could have predicted this.

Jack: There I have to disagree with you. As unexpected, as unpredictable as this moment was, I — I think it’s been in the cards for a long time.

Diane: What do you mean?

Jack: Finding you again may just be the fulfillment of a prophecy, all brought about by my mother.

Nate: I love it. This is bold. This is the kind of move devon would have quashed at chancellor-winters. Too risky.

Victoria: Well, I told you, we do things differently here.

Nate: Yes. I love it. Alright, look, let’s jump right in. First things first, we need to lure daniel and his project to newman media.

Victoria: That’s right. We need to give him something that chancellor-winters can’T. What is that?

Nate: The full power and magnitude of newman enterprises. We have deeper pockets.

Victoria: Yes. Well, the money angle is good, but it might take a little more to convince daniel.

Nate: Well, I can let daniel know that chancellor-winters will micromanage and second-guess him constantly.

Victoria: You’re right.

Nate: Mm-hmm.

Victoria: He’s an artist. He won’t have any control over his baby over there.

Nate: They will be breathing down his neck every step of the way.

Victoria: Why don’t we make that a part of the agreement? Give him autonomy. Put that in writing.

Nate: They’d never give it to him.

Victoria: We’re starting to look pretty good in comparison, don’t you think?

Nate: And I know how they typically structure their deals. We’ll just have to make sure we’re better at it.

Victoria: Wow. You really were wasted over there, weren’t you? They had no idea what they had at chancellor-winters.

Nate: And you haven’t heard about my secret weapon yet.

Nick: I want to help you. I’m just not sure how.

Sally: Well, you brought snacks. That’s pretty good.

Nick: Yeah.

Sally: Although I cannot believe you brought me caramel corn.

Nate: I can take that home with me.

Sally: Oh, don’t you dare. Look, I’m — I’m really sorry that I dumped all this on you.

Nick: That is not the way this works, sally. We’re in this together. You’re not dumping anything on me. You’re sharing, and I want you to continue to do that, alright?

Sally: It’s just hard for me to lean on anyone.

Adam: [ Sighs ]

Nick: I know you don’t wanna look too far into the future, but all we have to do is get you through your next doctor’s appointment. Everything gets a lot less scary.

Sally: Maybe.

Nick: I’m here for all of it, from picking out furniture for the nursery to buying all the “I’m having a baby” books. I’m here, okay?

Sally: And snacks. Can you be in charge of snacks?

Nick: Well, obviously.

[ Both laugh ] I’m the king of snacks. You’re never gonna be hungry around me. Everything — I’m serious — from pregnancy to births to school to recitals, soccer, sleepovers. I’ll be right there with you. I promise.

Sally: That sounds amazing.

Nick: It will be.

Sally: You know, besides all of, like, the soccer and the santa claus and all the other kid stuff… where does that leave us? Where do we stand?

Nate: I don’t have an answer, uh, for you regarding that. I think it’s too soon for us to make a decision about our future. But as far as being a parent, I’m solid, okay? That I am certain of. Hey. What’s wrong?

Sally: [ Sniffles ]

Nick: What’s wrong? I thought I was doing a pretty decent job making you feel better. What’s bothering you now?

Billy: I’m a lot.

Chelsea: You are a lot.

Billy: Yeah. [ Chuckles ] Yeah. See, but that’s why this could not be a date — because I would never actually admit that to someone that I was on a date with.

Chloe: That’s a very good point. Well, I wasn’t so concerned whether we thought it was a date. It was more, would your family think this is a date?

Billy: I think my family is a little, uh, busy right now. Apparently, jack and diane are back together.

Chelsea: Huh. Well, you don’t seem too troubled about that.

Billy: I believe in giving someone a second chance.

Chelsea: Sometimes a third chance.

Billy: Whatever it takes.

Chelsea: Well, I’m grateful for it.

Billy: I know what you’re thinking — dessert.

Chelsea: [ Gasps ] I was thinking about dessert. How did you know?

Billy: It’s a talent. I can usually tell when someone’s thinking dessert. I’m usually right. Who doesn’t love dessert?

Chelsea: Yeah. Thank you for this. Dinner with you is exactly what I needed.

Diane: Sorry I wasn’t here when your mother died. She was an amazing woman. But I still don’t see how dina predicted that you and I would reunite after years of everyone thinking I was dead.

Jack: My mother didn’t exactly predict it. Her jewelry did.

Diane: [ Laughs ] What in the world are you talking about? Wait a second. How much champagne have you had?

Jack: [ Laughs ] Hear me out.

Diane: Okay.

Jack: Years ago, when they first met, my father bought my mother an antique emerald necklace. It was beautiful, had lots of history, even had a name — the teardrop of love.

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: I have pictures of dina upstairs, a very young dina wearing it proudly. Anyway, when they split up, my mother traveled all over the world, and in her travels, somehow that necklace got lost. So, just before she died, I was able to track it down.

Diane: Well, I’m — I’m sure she appreciated that.

Jack: Oh, boy, did she. It was quite a reunion. And when she died, each of us got a little piece of the necklace. My section…

Diane: Ah.

Jack: …Got me these cufflinks.

Diane: Nice. And that’s a lovely story, but i still don’t see how it predicted that we would get back together.

Jack: There was a legend attached to the necklace. It held that whoever wore the necklace, whoever was around the gem, found love.

Diane: I see.

Jack: Over time, I realized that if the legend is true, it might just be about family love. After diana died, I was closer to kyle and my sisters and billy and abby and the whole abbott family.

Diane: Hmm.

Sally: We were gonna take things slow. We made a point of that. And now the pregnancy and everything is just moving at warp speed, and, I mean, who knows where we’re going? Every decision I make from now on isn’t just for me. I have to get this right.

Nick: And we will. Honestly, I’m still not sure what we’re talking about. What do we have to get right?

Diane: Well, of course. Listen, that all sounds fun, but it’s just — it’s just fantasy. I don’t need gowns or galas. What I want is…

[Voice breaking] Christmas, uh, christmas with the whole family. I want to — I want to celebrate the holidays with people that matter to me. I want… gosh, I want big family dinners where everybody sits around and shares their day and — and those traditional abbott breakfasts. I want picnics on the lake, you know, all those — all those special moments that I missed when I was away.

Jack: And that’s all?

Diane: And this. I want this moment right here with you because I feel — I feel worthy and wanted and safe. And, jack, I want a million moments more just like this. Ah.

[ Gasps, sniffles ]

Billy: I guess I’m just uber cautious about not making your life more difficult.

Chelsea: I’m okay. I am. Thanks to you, I’m on the right path. You don’t have to worry about me.

Billy: Yeah, well, I can’t help it. But just so you know, it goes both ways. I lean on you, as well. You know, being with you, hanging out like this — it’s been good for me. I don’t think about anything else. And, uh, you know, I’m just — I’m just here, and that’s nice.

Chelsea: I’m glad. I feel the same way.

[ Sighs ] The past few months have been really intense. I think you know me better than anybody.

Billy: Yeah. I feel like I got a glimpse into your soul. I feel like I saw you. And that’s a gift. I appreciate that.

Victoria: So, why are you keeping me in suspense here? What is your secret weapon?

Nate: Not what, but who? Audra. She left chancellor-winters, but she is still tight with tucker. She’s the one who let me know about his plans for omega sphere.

Victoria: Oh. So you have someone working on the inside. That’s great. I really appreciate you revealing your source. Most people would have tried to keep that quiet.

Nate: I trust you. I hope that goes both ways.

Victoria: [ Laughs ] It does. I have some information for you, too. My father and I have actually already discussed using audra as a way to take control of tucker’s company.

Nate: Ah. Great minds.

[ Both laugh ]

[ Glasses clink ]

Victoria: Yeah. You know, I do trust you completely, but we have to be very careful when it comes to audra. Tucker can’t find out about this, and if she slips up, he could be onto us.

Nate: She’s on our side. She’s agreed to keep me informed and help me predict his moves. We’ll stay one step ahead of him.

Victoria: I like the sound of that. But I’m still a little wary of her.

Nate: Fair enough. Look, she’s good at what she does, but part of that is playing the game. We’ll just have to play it better.

Victoria: I love that.

Nate: Mm. You know, most people don’t like this side of me. I find myself constantly keeping it under wraps. But being here with you, throwing out ideas, this — this is exhilarating.

Victoria: You know, you should never let anyone tell you who you are or how you should act. There’s nothing here that we’re doing wrong. If people want to judge us, they have no idea what it takes to fill our shoes, run a large company, leave behind a meaningful legacy. They have no idea what it takes to make things really happen.

Nate: [ Chuckles ]

Victoria: That’s damn right we do.

Nate: [ Chuckles ]

[ Sighs ] #1 isn’t a status earned overnight.

Diane: As much fun as I’ve had fantasizing about our future, I do have some concerns, and I know it violates the “positives only” rule, but we can’t ignore it, jack.

Jack: So, let me guess. Your concerns mostly have to do with people who want to get in the way of our happiness.

Diane: Yes, and no matter how many times you tell me, it doesn’t matter. There are people who will make things difficult for us.

Jack: What does it matter? This is ours. We earned this. We deserve this.

Diane: I don’t know that i do.

Jack: Of course you do. I know now the lengths you went to, to find your way back to us. I know the sacrifices you made. When we were together last time, it didn’t work out because we weren’t the people we needed to be yet. We had to go out into the world and grow and learn and make mistakes so we could find our way back to each other. Now — now we are the people we need to be to make this work. And by luck or fate or the magic of a necklace…

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: …We are together. And I don’t want to waste a moment of this.

Diane: [ Exhales sharply ]

Victoria: [ Exhales sharply ] Uh… those were some really good ideas about omega sphere and — and tucker, too. These are actually the kind of ideas that we need around here. So, good job.

Nate: Uh, great. Um, I’ll, um, set things motion first thing in the morning.

Victoria: Okay.

[ Clears throat ] I-I really think that we have something great started here. I’m — I’m starting to feel it.

Nate: Yeah, I’m feeling it, too.

[ Clears throat ]

Victoria: Okay, great. Well, I’m just gonna leave that here, and maybe we can finish it some other time. The — the drinking.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] Right.

[ Clears throat ]

Victoria: Have a good night, nate.

Nate: You too, victoria.

[ Footsteps departing ]

[ Sighs heavily ]

[ Door opens ]

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

Chelsea: I don’t really know what tonight was, but I do know I had a wonderful time.

Billy: Thank you.

Chelsea: I also know I would never want to do anything to jeopardize our friendship.

Billy: No. No, I agree. And that’s — that’s not gonna happen.

Chelsea: The reality is we went through something traumatizing together, something really intense. But we — we got through it, and we came out the other side.

Billy: Yeah, we did.

Chelsea: And you were right, what you said before.

[ Sighs ] It does go both ways. Over the past few months, I’ve seen your soul, too. I know who you are. And it brings me a lot of comfort.

Sally: I feel so content right now. You make me feel so special.

Nick: Because you are.

Sally: [ Breathes deeply ]

[ Sniffles ]

Nick: Hey, it’s okay.

Sally: No, it’s not. It’s not.

Nick: Look, I told you. Sally, I’ve got you. You’ve got nothing to worry about.

Sally: You really are the most kind and thoughtful man.

Nick: What is it?

Sally: Nick, I… I have to tell you something. It’s about the baby.

Sally: Adam could be the father.

Adam: [ Sighing ]

Adam: I take it billy hasn’t brought the boys back from skating yet?

Chelsea: No, he’s meeting me back here once the rink session ends.

Adam: Ah.

Chelsea: You want to wait with me?

Adam: Thank you.

Chelsea: How’s work?

Adam: Hmm? Excuse me?

Chelsea: I didn’t mean to pry.

Adam: Uh, work is work. It’s — it’s — it’s fine.

Chelsea: Are you okay? You seem a little tense.

Adam: Turns out dear old dad is up to his usual treachery again. So I’m gonna have to watch my back at jabot.

Chelsea: I’m sorry to hear that.

Adam: Yeah. Except for jack, none of the abbotts want me there. I mean, that is so typical for victor to try to sabotage me.

Chelsea: And let me guess. Victor now wants to punish you for turning your back on the family and going to work for “the enemy.”

Adam: Oh, well, according to nick, he’s doing it to save me.

Victor: Oh, my goodness.

Summer: [ Sighs ]

Victor: My sweet granddaughter.

Summer: Hi, grandpa.

Victor: How are you, my darling?

Summer: I’m doing just fine. How are you?

Victor: I’m doing well.

Summer: Good.

Victor: Yeah. Been a while since you and i have talked. How’s harrison?

Summer: Ah, he is a constant bright spot, even when things get challenging.

Victor: Mm. I think I know what you’re alluding to.

Summer: Do you?

Victor: Diane jenkins? Yep. Stunning how that woman was able to insinuate herself into our lives here in genoa city after all that she has done before, not only to jack and kyle’s lives, but considering what she has done in this town. My goodness. Anyway…

Summer: She’s entrenched, alright.

Victor: Yeah, and i understand that jack is doing all kinds of things for her, cleaning up her messes all over the place.

Summer: There’s not much i can do about that. Not that I have to like it.

Victor: No, but it’s complicated for you, isn’t it? Considering how much your mother loathes diane jenkins.

Summer: You want to know what’s even more frustrating?

Victor: Hmm?

Summer: It’s all of these plots and schemes that are constantly going on in both of our families. I mean, honestly, machiavelli had nothing on the newmans or the abbotts.

Victor: Machiavelli? That’s a renaissance man who wrote a book called “the prince” about how to rule people. You know? I mean, very flattering to be brought up in the same sentence with machiavelli, but I think it’s exaggerated, right?

Summer: I don’t think so.

Victor: You don’t?

Summer: I’ve been working really hard to convince kyle that we just need to avoid all the intrigue that is swirling around us, including yours, grandpa.

Victor: Hmm.

Diane: Oh! Hello, nikki. You’re looking well.

Nikki: Save it.

Diane: [ Scoffs ] Excuse me?

Nikki: Don’t waste your breath with friendly chitchat. We are not friends, and we never will be. Could I have some water, please?

Diane: Alright.

Nikki: I know that you and jack were behind the break-in at our apartment in chicago. You stole my necklace and framed jeremy stark for it.

Diane: [ Scoffs ] What a bizarre accusation. Do you have any evidence to back it up?

[ Elevator doors opening ]

Jack: Kyle. You got a minute?

Kyle: Sure. I assume this is about what we discussed before, you and mom and where that’s headed? I just had a long talk with her.

Jack: No, it’s another subject entirely. I heard a rather disturbing rumor I’m hoping you can dispel.

Kyle: What rumor’s that?

Jack: Victor is plotting against adam, trying to undermine his work here, and you’re helping him to implement it.

Kyle: Where is this coming from?

Jack: It doesn’t matter. Just tell me it isn’t true. Technically when enamel is gone,

Kyle: Victor did approach me, but I haven’t committed to anything specific.

Jack: Then you have considered it. Look, I know you had misgivings about my hiring adam to pick up the slack here when you moved over to marchetti, but —

Kyle: Look, you’re the guy’s only real friend, which should tell you something, but that’s your call. However, when you make him co-ceo of the family company, I get to have an opinion.

Jack: You think adam is trying to take over jabot?

Kyle: No, no, no. I don’t know what his motives are, but I can tell you what he’s done since he’s been here. Not much. The guy is coasting, dad, calling it in from the bar at society most days and drawing a big, fat paycheck with primo perks while he sorts out that mess he calls a life. Am I wrong? How would you rate his job performance?

Jack: I have gone over status reports on the different divisions that adam oversees. I have spoken to division managers.

Kyle: Just like I have. And?

[ Folder thuds ]

Jack: And you are right. While he started strong, he has been slipping lately.

Kyle: More like M.I.A. Totally dropping the ball. It’s pretty unacceptable from a guy at his —

Jack: That is still something for adam and I to work through.

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Jack: Not you, not anyone else. Victor certainly doesn’t have a place in this conversation. Frankly, neither do you.

Victor: So, my beautiful granddaughter, what’s on your mind?

Summer: There’s no point in talking around this, so I’m just gonna come right out and say it.

Victor: Okay.

Summer: Please stop trying to get kyle to help you with your plan to punish adam.

Victor: You seem upset.

Summer: I am upset. Things with kyle were going great. We were running marchetti. We were raising harrison. It was total bliss.

Victor: Sweetheart, the last thing I want to do is disturb that bliss.

Summer: The thing is, grandpa, is people in both of our families are involved in all of these secret maneuvers. It’s causing a lot of friction in our family.

Victor: So, where’s all this coming from?

Summer: [ Sighs ] Grandpa, my husband and I don’t keep things from each other.

Victor: Mm.

Summer: Kyle told me that you were looking for a way to push adam out of jabot and that you offered up some textile mills in exchange for his assistance. I mean, kyle doesn’t love having adam in the mix over there, but thankfully he turned you down. He told me that he didn’t want any part of it. So, what I’m asking you is to please stop asking him about it because he is not gonna change his mind.

Victor: Tell me something, sweetheart. Do you, um, think adam is where he belongs?

Adam: Victor’s plan du jour is to get me fired from jabot, after which he’ll dangle some irresistible position at newman, and then he will follow it up with a hearty welcome home. I mean, only — only victor newman would view trying to tank my career as an act of paternal affection.

Chelsea: Is he succeeding? Is your job in jeopardy?

Adam: No, not yet. I mean, at least not that I know of. Do you wanna hear what the punch line is? I’M…not happy at jabot.

Chelsea: Really? Why?

Adam: [ Sighs ] I don’t fit in there. As much as I try to, I just — I don’t connect to the work or the products that we sell there or the people…

Chelsea: [ Chuckles ]

Adam: …That I supervise.

Chelsea: That’s frustrating.

Adam: Yeah. As much as I hate to admit it and as much as my father’s methods are infuriating and wildly inappropriate… his instincts are dead on. Skin feeling dry? Swipe it away.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Nikki: You know, there have been such incredible advances in security technology — cameras so small they can be hidden anywhere. And the image quality? Ooh, so sharp.

Diane: I saw your reaction when it occurred to you that jack might have let himself into your apartment and maybe borrowed your necklace. And for a second, I thought you were going to suggest it to chance, but you didn’T. So I suspect that if you did have proof and you wanted to use it, you would have done so by now.

Nikki: Keep telling yourself that.

Diane: Mm-hmm, yeah. And as much as you hate me, i really don’t believe you’d put jack in that position just to get back at me. Besides, I also think you’re glad jeremy’s gone, however it happened, because your family was in danger, just like mine, thanks to phyllis and her recklessness.

Nikki: You seem quite confident that you’ve gotten away with another crime, as if everything is working out just as you planned. But you and I both know that’s an act because deep down, even you don’t believe it.

Kyle: I haven’t done a thing to adam. I haven’t needed to. He has done a great job sabotaging himself.

Jack: I understand why you might think that you, but —

Kyle: Dad, you went so far out on a limb for that guy, knowing there wasn’t a single person in our family who would support him being co-ceo. You risked alienating everyone because you believed so strongly in adam. He claimed he wanted to redeem himself, he want to turn his life around, like he always does. And this is how he repays you, doing mediocre work and dragging the company down?

Jack: You can’t say he’s dragging jabot down —

Kyle: No, this isn’t about whether victor has a plan to undermine adam or not. Who cares? The point is, he doesn’t deserve the position of authority you gave him. He shouldn’t be at jabot, full stop. Hell, the guy doesn’t even want to be here. So, what is this about, dad? Why not cut him loose and call it a day?

Chelsea: This is the first time I’m hearing you’re dissatisfied working at jabot.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] Well, it’s the first time that I’m admitting it out loud. I mean, you know — I left newman because I was fed up with being disrespected, being strung along, being told that I’m valued but never being part of the inner circle. I mean, victoria has never missed a chance to remind me of that.

Chelsea: Yeah, but jack is finally giving you the status, the respect that you deserve, along with trust and responsibility. Why isn’t that enough for you?

Adam: That is a great question. And jack’s a true friend. He handed me a terrific opportunity. Trust me — I know how selfish and ungrateful I sound right now.

Chelsea: I’m not judging you. I’m just wondering what’s going on with you.

Adam: Yeah. Well, me too.

Chelsea: You know, when I was doing two fashion jobs at once and I wasn’t feeling passionate about either one of them, you gave me some good advice. You told me to step back instead of burning myself out, even though I didn’t want to listen to you.

Adam: Well, the last thing i think I am is overworked. To be honest with you, I’ve been slacking big time.

Chelsea: Well, that’s not like you.

Adam: Yeah. Well, maybe when I’m not up to something devious or trying to prove myself to someone who doubts me, I lose motivation.

Chelsea: Hmm. Well, maybe you need to make some enemies around the office.

Adam: I think besides jack, nobody wanted me to work there, so I don’t think that’s the issue. I have plenty of haters. I don’t know what’s wrong with me.

Chelsea: You know, another upside to working at jabot — you’re free from all that newman drama, which is something you’ve said you’ve always wanted.

Adam: Yeah. That is a good point.

Chelsea: However, on the other hand, jabot is a different kind of company than you’re used to working at, for sure. It’s a lot more laid-back, narrowly focused on cosmetics, definitely, you know, not as much of a challenge to run.

Adam: Well, I’m certainly not in any danger of running newman ever again.

Chelsea: If victor made you a great offer — I mean a great offer — where you could thrive, show off your talents, finally get the respect you deserve, you’re telling me you wouldn’t do it? Did you know, some ordinary cold medicines can raise your blood pressure?

Adam: I can’t imagine a scenario where I would be tempted to go back to newman. Last time I was there, they treated me like crap. “You’re ceo. Now you’re not.” And like you said, I have no desire to get sucked into their constant drama.

Chelsea: Well, that’s not really an answer. Just because you can’t imagine a scenario doesn’t mean it couldn’t exist.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Well, you got me there.

Chelsea: And you admitted yourself you don’t think that victor is trying to punish you with this little scheme of his. So, then why go to all the trouble? Do you think maybe, just maybe, deep down, he believes that you belong in his family, that you belong to be a part of this big newman empire, and maybe, in your heart of hearts, that’s what you want, too?

Adam: He might believe that. I guarantee you none of the rest of them care what I want.

Chelsea: That might be true. But victor is the only one who matters. Hi!

Billy: Hey. Connor, it’s your fan club.

Connor: Where?

Chelsea: No, he means us, silly. How was skating?

Connor: Totally great.

Johnny: Except for all the times dad fell on his butt.

Billy: Alright, I was little rusty.

Connor: I thought you were billy.

Johnny: Good one.

Billy: Alright, who wants hot chocolate?

Johnny: Ooh, I do!

Connor: Me!

Billy: Okay, good. So, go order whatever you want. Grab me a small coffee, please. Anybody else want anything?

Chelsea: I’m good, thanks.

Johnny: I thought you were chelsea.

Chelsea: Ohh!

Connor: You stole my joke.

Johnny: No, I didn’T.

Connor: Yeah, you did.

Johnny: It had to be funny to be a joke.

Connor: Ha ha.

Billy: Okay.

Summer: Only jack and adam can answer that question.

Victor: I want to hear it from you. You think that adam deserves to be co-ceo at jabot?

Summer: I think… I think it’s problematic. I mean, not everyone is a fan of his, and, honestly, I don’t really know why jack ever made that choice. And I don’t see how it ends well for anyone.

Victor: So, you don’t think adam has changed?

Summer: Is that a serious question?

Victor: Mm-hmm. You know, your father thinks that he deserves more of a chance.

Summer: Well, that’s because adam gave faith a kidney. And even that wasn’t enough to keep up the goodwill. I think my dad has realized with the rest of us always have known — that these flashes of humanity, they never last. Whenever adam does something good or heroic, it’s always calculated. It’s transactional. It’s because he wants something in return.

Victor: A lot of truth to what you say. But adam is my son.

Summer: Well, you know what, grandpa? It’s not even really about what my dad thinks or my opinion or even what adam does. This is about you trying to convince kyle to facilitate adam’s return to newman, which could cause a huge conflict between him and jack. And that’s the last thing my husband needs.

Victor: My darling, i appreciate your honesty, okay? And I will give what you said a lot of thought.

Summer: [ Sighs ] The last thing I want to do is be upset with you, grandpa.

Victor: You know that I adore you, okay?

Summer: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: You criticize adam all you want. His role at jabot is not up for debate. He answers to me, not you, not victor. And his work does not affect you or marchetti.

Kyle: Dad, listen to me —

Jack: I’ve listened to you! Now you listen to me. I stand by my decision to hire adam, and I will address his performance the same way I do any valued executive in this company. What I won’t do is fire him to please victor or to satisfy you. I am delighted that you are not involved in victor’s manipulations, but I will speak to him very soon.

Kyle: No, I really —

Jack: No, I think I’m done on this particular subject. I’d like to change the subject. There’s something else I’d like to talk to you about.

Kyle: What’s that?

Jack: You said you had a conversation with your mother. How did that go? Did you find it reassuring, her devotion, her commitment to you and the family, despite anything that might happen between the two of us?

Kyle: I’m trying to be open to this, dad, for your sake. I want you to be happy, both you and mom. But… look, just be careful, alright? Protect yourself.

Jack: What in particular is prompting that warning?

[Coughing]

Johnny: The best part — there was a hockey game on the second rink and connor played it.

Chelsea: You did? Like a pickup game?

Connor: Yeah.

Chelsea: Ah.

Adam: Well, how was it?

Connor: Epic. I wish you guys would have come.

Chelsea: If I got back on skates right now, I would end up entirely black and blue.

Johnny: [ Gasps ] You two could have matching bruises.

Billy: Oh, come on. I did not fall that often.

Johnny: He’s getting old. It happens.

Connor: [ Laughs ]

Billy: You know what? You’re — you’re — you’re now grounded.

Johnny: Oh, just like you were when you hit that ice and just absolutely sprawled out?

Billy: Alright, already! Enough is enough.

Connor: I think the grown-ups are better off sitting on the benches and talking about old movies or whatever, like they always do.

Chelsea: Well, that sounds about right. That’s pretty much our speed. Yeah.

Connor: [ Laughs ]

Billy: Cheers to old people.

Chelsea: Cheers to old people.

[ Laughs ]

Kyle: On the whole, it was a good talk. I felt like we were both being honest, and I got a lot off my chest.

Jack: Good. I’m glad to hear that.

Kyle: Mom was adamant there would be no more surprises from her past.

Jack: That’s a good thing. Or you doubt that?

Kyle: I don’t want to see you get hurt again. You’ve had your heart broken enough. I told her that.

Jack: And you think that’s inevitable?

Kyle: I hope not. God knows we’ve all been through enough trauma, but, dad, she has a history of making promises she can’t keep. Then we get surprised by people like jeremy stark.

Jack: He is no longer a threat.

Kyle: You took a big risk handling that. I appreciate it, and I know mom does, too. Although I’m still upset you handled it on your own and wouldn’t let me in.

Jack: You know what? That’s over. It’s taken care of.

Kyle: This time.

Jack: There will not be a next time, not if I have anything to say about it.

Kyle: And to answer your question… I am cautiously optimistic.

Jack: Good. Kyle, I am taking this next step with my eyes wide open. I hope you can see the positive aspects in all of this. I am happy. Diane is happy.

Kyle: That counts for a lot, dad.

Jack: Your parents have worked through the trauma of the past and are looking to a bright new future together. That is a very good thing.

Diane: I’m feeling optimistic about the future. Very optimistic.

Nikki: Well, you have nothing to fear from me. I’m not going to inject myself into the police investigation. And you’re right. Jeremy stark should never have been lured to town. It’s just as well for everybody that he has been arrested.

Diane: Oh. So, you’re acknowledging that i was right. That’s a first.

Nikki: Don’t get too excited. It’s merely another case of you using deception to get what you want, making jack do your dirty work.

Diane: Mm. Hypothetically speaking, if jack

had stolen your necklace, it would be because he wouldn’t let me take that risk.

Nikki: Well, I’m sure he enjoyed playing the hero. And given your optimism, perhaps this little brush with danger brought the two of you even closer. All that heightened emotion. Tell me — have you moved in with jack yet? Ah, not yet. Mustn’t appear too eager. But I’m sure you will make him think it’s his idea and he’ll jump into it with such enthusiasm and hope — because that’s the kind of person he is. But you have to know how ugly things will turn out because that’s just the natural course of things where you are concerned and that’s the kind of person you are.

Diane: You know, you’re behind the times, nikki. I haven’t moved in, but jack and I are back together already.

Nikki: Ugh. That’s unfortunate. He’s such a smart man, except when it comes to you.

Diane: No, he’s wise not to let other people’s opinions keep him from being happy.

Nikki: I guess jeremy stark’s sojourn to genoa city worked out well for you. It gave you the opportunity to play the damsel in distress, which a man as chivalrous as jack will find very appealing. You really should be grateful to phyllis.

Diane: [ Scoffs ] I’ll be sure and send her a thank-you card.

Nikki: I wouldn’T. Phyllis is all about the long game. So she will hold on to it and then throw it in your face when things inevitably fall apart.

Diane: Things won’T. What jack and I have is exciting and intense, but there’s also comfort and security in our history and the family we share. It’s real and it’s happening and it’s going to last a long, long time. And there’s nothing that you or ashley or phyllis can do to stop it. You see, nikki, that’s the natural course of things. So you better get used to it and leave us alone.

[ Keys jangling ]

Jack: [ Sighs ]

[ Keys clatter ]

Diane: Jack, I want you to know that I would never do anything to drive you away again.

Jack: Oh, god —

Diane: No, after everything I’ve been through and — and all those years, I — I know what it’s like to lose you. And kyle. To be alone. And I will — I will never put myself at risk for that again.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Jack: Chance. Hi. Uh, this is a surprise. What brings you by?

Chance: I am here on official police business. Ladies…

Jack: I’m not sure what this is about, but I’m always happy to help the gcpd.

Chance: Actually, I’m here on behalf of the chicago police department. Apparently this belongs to you.

Jack: Yeah, that looks familiar.

Chance: We found it when we did a more thorough search of mr. Stark’s suite. There’s $500,000 in there. Mr. Stark’s claiming that you loaned it to him.

Jack: Yeah, that’s right.

Chance: Well, since there’s no evidence that links this to the crime, it’s been released from police custody. So I guess you can consider your loan paid in full, assuming this is it.

Jack: Yeah, yeah, it certainly appears to be.

Chance: You want to know what I find really interesting, jack? That day I arrested stark, you and diane showed up, and you claimed you were there to discuss the money that diane owed stark. Yet you just handed him this great deal of cash. So, why was it still an issue?

Jack: Stark claimed that diane would never be in the clear until she paid him back herself.

Chance: Really? Then why did he take your money?

Jack: Well, I can’t begin to tell you how a criminal’s mind works, but I-I assume he… just the fact that he didn’t spend the money means he meant what he said.

Chance: I’m surprised he didn’t want to hold on to it, pay his lawyers. I mean, he’s looking at a pretty expensive trial, jack.

Jack: Well, I’m sure it looks pretty bad when a convicted money launderer has this kind of cash on hand. I’m sure he wanted to make it clear that he obtained it legally. But, I mean, that’s just a guess.

Chance: Why didn’t you mention this to me that day at the hotel, jack?

Jack: It didn’t seem relevant. I had no idea it was still in the suite. I assumed he’d put it in a bank somewhere.

Chance: Right. Well, this certainly has worked out for you, hasn’t it? Stark’s locked up, and you don’t lose a dime.

[ Chuckles ] Yeah, that’s, uh, pretty convenient. Have a good night, jack.

Jack: Take care, chance.

[ Door closes ] Wow.

Chelsea: Well, I’m glad you boys would have been willing to include me in all of your fun, but I actually had a bunch of things that I needed to accomplish today.

Billy: Checking things off the list — nothing more satisfying than that. Watch out, dmv. Here comes chelsea.

Chelsea: That’s right. I got this guy some extra school supplies, picked up some groceries — popcorn, of course, ultimate cheddar.

Billy: Thank you. My favorite.

Johnny: Well, while you guys were doing old-people things, connor was crushing it in the hockey game. He out-skated me, plus a ton of older guys. They were all like, “who is this kid?”

Chelsea: Hey!

Connor: It was cool.

Adam: Well, I would like to come see you next time, see you in action. But right now, uh, we should be heading home.

Connor: Okay. Thanks for taking us.

Billy: Anytime. It was my pleasure. Uh, you ready to go? Why don’t you make sure you got everything? I’m gonna drop you off at your mom’S. Are we, uh, still on for later? You want to try and grab something to eat?

Chelsea: Yeah. I’m looking forward to it.

Billy: Okay, great. You ready?

Johnny: Yeah.

Diane: [ Sighs ] Whoa. What a day.

Jack: Hey. Come here.

Diane: Aww. Mm.

Jack: You just missed chance.

Diane: Was he here on police business?

Jack: Yes, but in a nice way. The good detective was here to make a delivery — the half-million dollars I gave to stark.

Diane: You got it back?

Jack: Yep. It was confiscated when he was arrested. All the money was inside a briefcase with my initials on it. Stark claimed I had loaned him the money, and I hadn’t reported any stolen money, so the good folks at the chicago police department released it to me. It is in the safe right now.

Diane: Oh, that is so good to hear. I felt so guilty knowing that you handed all that money to jeremy just to get him to leave me alone.

Jack: A small price to pay for your safety.

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: Though we now know he was after more than just money. But we managed to turn the tables on him, working together.

Diane: Yeah.

Jack: Hey. What’s wrong?

Diane: Uh, I ran into nikki at the hotel.

Jack: Well, that couldn’t have been fun.

Diane: No, and she is certain that we orchestrated jeremy’s arrest by stealing her necklace.

Jack: Did she threaten you? Did she have any proof?

Diane: No, no. She tried to make me think she did. She was trying to make me nervous, but I called her bluff. I said that even if she did have proof, that she wouldn’t use it in that way because she knows that it would hurt you just to get back at me.

Jack: Good for you.

Diane: [ Sighs ] Yeah, but, uh — but then I probably said more than I should have.

Diane: I can’t guarantee what the future holds for me and jack, but I can promise you that whatever happens, I will never abandon you again.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

[ Knock on door ]

Kyle: Hey.

Summer: Hi.

[ Both breathe deeply ]

Kyle: Hello to you, too.

Summer: Thank you. I needed that.

Kyle: Well, you don’t hear me complaining.

Summer: How’s your day going?

Kyle: Oof. Turns out running a global fashion house is easier than managing my family.

Summer: Mm. Dealing with bad stuff can be a challenge.

Kyle: Yeah, my parents are moving so fast, and they think i ought to be thrilled for them.

Summer: And you’re not there yet. I get it. Neither am I.

Kyle: Don’t get me wrong. I want things to work out for them.

Summer: But like we discussed earlier, it affects us and harrison.

Kyle: Especially considering the blowback it’ll have on my dad. A lot of people are gonna hate he’s getting involved with my mom.

Summer: Yeah, like my mom and ashley, nikki.

Kyle: On top of that, someone told him victor is planning to get adam out of jabot with my help.

Summer: How did jack react?

Kyle: He was relieved when i told him I wasn’t participating.

Summer: Okay, see? Aren’t you glad that you listened to me? I mean, my grandpa may have convinced himself that what he’s doing is in adam’s best interests, but it has the potential to cause a huge conflict between you and your dad.

Kyle: Mm. To say the least.

Summer: I actually just ran into my grandpa.

Kyle: Yeah?

Summer: Yeah. I told him to stop trying to pressure you into going along with his plan — since you’re staying out of it. Y-you are, right?

[ Knock on door ]

Adam: I was looking for jack.

Kyle: He’s not here, as you can see.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Uh-huh. I gather you know what your husband’s up to? Victor… why are you still living with odors?

Nikki: It’s bad enough that diane is gonna get away with yet another caper. But now she’s glommed on to jack, bragging about how close they’ve become. It makes me sick.

Victor: They deserve each other. Let that be their punishment.

Nikki: [ Sighs ]

Jack: What exactly did you say to nikki that you wish you hadn’t?

Diane: [ Sighs ] I swear she was channeling phyllis. She was trying to push all my buttons. You know, basically, nikki told me that my life is destined to go down in flames.

Jack: I’m sorry she put you through that.

Diane: Yeah, I couldn’t stand that smug, condescending look on her face, so I said, “actually, no, my life is fabulous,” which it is. I told her that you and I were in a good place and that she needed to get used to seeing us together again. But maybe I shouldn’t have been so…

Jack: What? Provocative?

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: Why not? You were telling the truth. We have nothing to hide.

Diane: I can’t tell you how much I love hearing you say that, how good it makes me feel. But you know it’s just a matter of time before people start seeing us together again. Are you sure you’re ready for that?

Jack: Bring it on.

Diane: [ Laughs ]

Jack: I am very happy right now. Nothing is going to take that away from me.

Diane: Mm.

Adam: I assume that, kyle, given the kind of man you are, you share everything with your wife. Surely you know that he’s been working with victor to get me exiled from jabot. Yeah, I’m just — I’m surprised that you would do something so underhanded, knowing how royally it’s gonna piss off jack, and that you would go along with it.

Summer: Adam, whatever you think is going on, kyle has no part in it, and neither do I. And I don’t like the accusations you’re throwing around.

Adam: It really means that much to you to have me gone?

Kyle: Why don’t you just admit you really don’t even want to be here?

Adam: [ Sighs ]

[ Chuckles ]

Billy: [ Sighs ]

Chelsea: Hey.

Billy: Hi. You look great.

Chelsea: Oh, thanks. So do you. I spent an inordinate amount of time deciding what to wear, which sounds ridiculous, but… yeah. You know. Going out with a friend like this is a big deal for me at the moment, so…

Billy: Well, if it ever gets too much, you just say the word, okay? This is supposed to be fun and relaxing.

Chelsea: Fun. Right. I vaguely remember what that looks like.

Billy: Oh, I trust you’ll get it back.

Chelsea: [ Chuckles ] You know, I — I would never attempt this with anybody else. No pressure.

Billy: Look, I am honored that you feel comfortable enough to go to dinner with me. So…shall we?

Lily: Hi.

Abby: Uh, picking up food to go?

Lily: Uh, yeah, I am.

Abby: Do you want me to go check on your order?

Lily: No, no, no, it’s fine. They said it’d be ready in a few minutes.

Abby: Oh. Let me guess. You are picking up food to bring back to the office because you’re working overtime.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, well, there is a lot going on at chancellor-winters these days.

Abby: How are you feeling about everything?

Lily: Well, you were there when devon said he’s ready to go to court over this.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Lily: What do you think about it? I mean, I know that you’re loyal to devon, and clearly he trusts you if he said it was fine for you to stay while we were chatting.

It’s probably because I know you both so well, and he didn’t think it would do any harm.

Lily: Yeah. Well, I just really felt like I found a win-win situation for us. I mean, he gets to keep the name and get paid handsomely, and we get to move forward with the ipo. Anybody clearly, devon doesn’t feel the same way about it.

Lily: Yeah, but how do you feel about it? Because, I mean, you were very quiet during our conversation. Do you really think that devon is making the right decision?

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Devon: Look who it is.

Victoria: Hello, there, devon.

Devon: Hi, victoria.

Victoria: So, how are things going with the ipo?

Devon: Uh, well, why would I want to talk about that with you after you tried to take my company?

Victoria: I may have had some interest initially, but I’ve moved on.

Devon: Oh, well, that’s good to hear. You’ve been making some interesting choices lately at newman media. I hope you don’t regret hiring nate and audra, since they both betrayed chancellor-winters.

Victoria: I’m sorry there’s a rift between you and nate.

Devon: Are you?

Victoria: Yes, of course I am. I know how important family is, and I know how tricky family business can be.

Devon: Bet you do.

Victoria: Speaking of family, how are things going with tucker?

Daniel: Thank you. I’m willing to sit down with you, but anything we discuss regarding omega sphere is purely hypothetical. You know that I have a deal with chancellor-winters.

Tucker: I do. I was gonna ask you about that.

[ Clears throat ] What’s the current status of your contract there, with their ipo on hold?

Daniel: Should have a better idea in a week.

Tucker: I admire your patience [Chuckles] And your loyalty, [Inhales deeply] Especially to a company that seems so in flux.

Daniel: Well, lily is a dear and trusted friend.

Tucker: Hmm. Yeah, but she can’t know everything, right? And this is your vision, your future. It’s a possible legacy move for you. Have you ever been involved in anything potentially this big?

Daniel: Nothing of this scale when it comes to business. I was an artist, so I was painting, doing photography. These are all uncharted waters for me, which is why I need to make sure that I align myself with someone that I trust completely.

Tucker: You mean, someone unlike me.

[ Laughs ]

[ Glasses clink ]

Diane: Hey, thank you for telling me about your conversation with kyle. I need to speak to him now. You know, I just don’t want his fears about us to fester. And if he felt the need to discuss them with you, then I should do the same with him.

Jack: I’ll call and tell him to join us.

Diane: No, no, no, no. I should talk to him alone. I — I want him to be able to speak his mind freely without worrying what your reaction would be or wondering if you were going to defend me or not.

Jack: And we both know I would.

Diane: [ Chuckles ] Yeah. This also is not a conversation for the office.

Jack: Okay, you decide what’s best.

Diane: Yeah. Kyle. Hi. I was wondering if we could talk. Um, can you meet me at the house?

Nick: As misguided as it is for dad to try and create trouble for you at jabot, it does seem like he wants to bring you back in the fold. Hey, is everything alright?

Sally: Yeah, it’s fine.

Nick: Doesn’t seem like that.

Adam: Uh, my brother was just alerting me to a potential land mine set by our father, and I was about to thank him, even though his motives were potentially self-serving.

Adam: Oh,no, we’re not ready to throw a fist just yet. We are, um — what are we doing? How would you characterize this, nicholas?

Nick: Just trying to keep our father from causing trouble.

Sally: Hmm. Good. Uh, you know, I — I’ve kind of lost my appetite. I-I should get going, but —

Adam: Hold on a second. Alright, you are not acting like yourself. What’s — what’s wrong?

Sally: It’s nothing, I swear. You know, I just have a lot on my mind, getting this new company going. You know, we’ve hit a few snags, but it’s all gonna work out.

Nick: I’ll leave with you.

Adam: [ Sighs ]

Nick: What’s going on? That phone call really seemed to upset you.

Sally: Uh, it was my O.B., Dr. Chandler, but I really don’t want to talk about it in here, so…

Adam: [ Sighing ]

Devon: Why would you ask me about tucker?

Victoria: I just know that it must be tense now that you know his true motives for coming to genoa city was to take control of chancellor-winters and jabot. I mean, it must hurt, given that when he first came back, he said that he wanted to connect with you and dominic.

Devon: Well, I didn’t trust him from the day he turned up, so that doesn’t hurt that much. But I imagine that you learned about his true motives from audra?

Victoria: No, actually, i talked with tucker about it myself.

Devon: Oh, you did? That’s interesting. You seem awfully curious about my relationship with him and the ipo and chancellor-winters, all in the same conversation.

Victoria: I’m just asking you as a friend. It’s not business.

Devon: I don’t know if you’d call us friends, victoria, but I do know that you don’t do anything casually. So why don’t you just come clean about what you really want?

Tucker: I know you’re wary of me, and not without good reason, considering my history in this town with some of the folks. But I just wish I could convince you that we share a similar vision.

Daniel: Hmm. I actually do think that we share some common ground. Your pitch earlier struck a chord with me.

Tucker: Really?

Daniel: Mm hmm. So much so that I spoke with my mother about it.

Tucker: Uh-oh.

Daniel: [ Chuckles ]

Tucker: I cannot imagine phyllis was in favor of us going into business together.

Daniel: [ Chuckles ] Oh, you are correct. Well, this is my venture. I’m going to make the final decision as to who we partner with if things do fall apart at chancellor-winters. My mother, well, she’s going to have to deal with whatever decision I make.

Tucker: I like the sound of that, although I know phyllis can be a little, uh…

Daniel: Bossy?

Tucker: [ Chuckles ]

Daniel: Stubborn?

Tucker: [ Chuckles ]

Daniel: Always thinks she’s right?

Tucker: I was gonna say “formidable,” but…

Daniel: Mm-hmm. Well, she works for me, so I’ll handle her. And that doesn’t mean I’m gonna turn my back on lily — you know, not without cause.

Tucker: Sure.

Daniel: I just hope that’s something that you can appreciate and, um, maybe back off until things have settled.

Tucker: But you should know, my company is absolutely the most viable place for your dream to come to life. And, uh, [Chuckles] When i set my heart to something, I — I don’t ever give up, which [Sighs] Has been a problem for me, learning to let go. So I’ve been combating that with the belief that things are going to work out the way they’re meant to. You know, simply trust the universe and all that?

Daniel: I’m sorry, what did you say?

Abby: Look, I have seen far too many times how business can damage family relationships. And at first, I was trying to nudge devon to accept the buyout.

Lily: Yeah, well, too bad it didn’t work.

Abby: I disagree. I mean, after listening to devon, I understand his perspective. Hamilton-winters means so much to him, and it would be awful for him to lose it to some ipo that he never supported in the first place.

Lily: Yeah, but do you realize how ugly a lawsuit could become? I mean, you think there’s hurt feelings and resentment now. Imagine what going to court would do.

Abby: Honestly, I don’t know why you and jill don’t just accept devon’s decision. Chancellor industries was huge before it ever merged with hamilton-winters. So why don’t you just go back to that? And why are you willing to fight your brother for something that’s dollars and cents to you, but it means everything to devon? I think it says more about your priorities than anything else.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] How dare you question my priorities? To you, it may just be an elevator.

Lily: Who are you to tell me that I care more about my business than my family? My family has always been a priority to me, and I really resent you saying otherwise.

Abby: I think you’re misinterpreting what I said. I never said you didn’t value your family.

Lily: Abby, I’m only talking to you about this because I’m trying to figure out a way to have devon and I work this out together. I’m not trying to get you to convince him to not fight for his company. I’m trying to convince him to stay at chancellor-winters.

Abby: Devon has made it clear — drop the ipo.

Lily: Jill is not gonna go for that. She’s not. The whole reason for this merger was to have our family work together. And I’ve already lost nate, and now I feel like I’m losing devon. And he’s saying that he wants to protect our father’s legacy. Like, he’s my father, too. Of course I want to protect his legacy. And he doesn’t realize that if we go to court over this, it could damage hamilton-winters. And I don’t think he’s considering that risk.

Abby: Have you said this to your brother?

Lily: I’ve tried. I have tried, and he just seems so set in doing this. Abby, listen, I would never ask you to go against your instinct, but you said you know what kind of turmoil this could cause to a family. So a legal battle would damage us all. So I’m just asking you if you think that devon might regret walking away. Just tell him that. Please, just tell him that, as one last try.

Victoria: I’m not sure what you mean. I don’t really have anything to come clean about.

Devon: Oh, really? Okay, well, then I’m gonna go ahead and take off because I need to get back home. Abby is dropping off dominic, so I’ll see you later.

Victoria: Devon, uh…

Devon: Yeah?

Victoria: [ Sighs ] = You may not see it this way, but I still — I still see you as a friend. And we are connected by family through abby and dominic. I hope we can find a way to separate the business and the personal. I’ve had to learn to do that as a newman. It’s not easy.

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Victoria: But if you count everyone that you have a different professional agenda with your enemy, then your circle gets very small.

[ Footsteps departing ] Um… can I get a coffee to go? And, um… a croissant? Thank you.

Tucker: I’m — I’m trying to trust the universe?

Daniel: [ Chuckles ] The same exact thing that heather always used to say to me. Sorry. It just caught me off guard, hearing those words.

[ Sighs ] Anytime I would lose my patience, get frustrated, she would always tell me to stop fighting and trust the universe.

Tucker: Hmm. You miss her a lot?

Daniel: I do. But I’m following her advice and yours. I’m living my life and I’m having faith that one day we’re gonna be reunited. That’s — that’s the reason why this project is so important to me and believe that it’s the path that I’m meant to be on, the one that’s gonna bring me back to lucy and heather. So I’m just trusting the universe.

Tucker: Hmm. I guess you must have a certain amount of trust in phyllis, too.

Daniel: Why would you say that?

Tucker: I assumed she was going to portugal to help smooth things over with your partner and daughter. The universe needs a little boost sometimes.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Diane: [ Sighs ]

[ Door opens ]

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

[ Door closes ]

Diane: Hey, thanks for coming. Um, I-I know you’re busy, but I — I kind of felt like this conversation couldn’t wait, and, well, I thought we could use some privacy.

Kyle: What you want to talk about?

Diane: Well, I spoke to summer, and she clearly has reservations about jack and i being romantically involved again. I — I tried to address her concerns, but I-I-I don’t know how effective I was.

Kyle: Well, I haven’t had a chance to talk to summer about that yet.

Diane: Well, I also spoke to jack, and he told me that the two of you talked earlier.

Kyle: Thought that was supposed to be a private father-son conversation. Is this how it’s gonna be now — I say something to one of you and it’s automatically shared with the other?

Diane: No, no, absolutely not. But, kyle, that’s why I wanted to talk to you. I-I don’t want to hear how you’re feeling from summer or from jack. I want to hear it from you. And [Sighs] I want you to be honest with me. Suffering from sinus congestion, especially at night?

Kyle: I am still processing the idea that you and dad are back together. Like I said before, when you broke the news. I’m conflicted.

Diane: And I want you to tell me why.

Kyle: I’m worried things may not work out, which happen way more often than “happily ever after.”

Diane: Kyle, I have no intention of messing things up with jack. I love your father’s big heart, and I am not going to break it again.

Kyle: I want to believe that. But people make promises and things happen. Things have happened. I know you’ve hurt him in the past, moving us around, cutting us off from him.

Diane: Alright, well, things were complicated back then.

Kyle: Yeah, but dad’s heart is not complicated. And if it is broken, so is the entire abbott family, because we rely on him, we lean on him.

Diane: I know, and I accept that responsibility.

[ Sighs ] But I-I can’t let the fear of what might happen keep me from being happy now. And it’s not just one-sided. I mean, I’m taking a leap of faith with this romance, too. We both are. Because, I don’t know, it just feels right in so many ways that it hasn’t before. But you’re right, you’re right. There are no guarantees. But jack and i both have a lot at stake. And we’ve gone into this consciously and cautiously.

[ Sighs ] But I get the sense that there’s more going on for you when it comes to this. You’re not just protecting jack’s heart, are you?

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Nick: [ Sighs ] Alright, now that we, uh, have some privacy, do you want to tell me what your doctor said?

Sally: Um, yeah, I’m — I, um– I just went in for some routine prenatal testing, and — and everything’s fine, but, um, they want me to come back in because my blood pressure is high.

Nick: Has that been an issue for you in the past?

Sally: No, not at all. And I mean, dr. Chandler assured me there was nothing to worry about at this point. I’m in good physical shape. They said they’d just keep an eye on it and treat it if need be.

Nick: Okay, well, it sounds like your doctor’s just being cautious.

Sally: Yeah. Yeah, but it still threw me. It just got me thinking about this massive responsibility coming my way and all the ways that my life is gonna change, in the ways that I’m gonna have to adjust — ways that I-I can’t predict and ways I-I never even planned for. And just got me thinking, how — how am I gonna navigate all of it?

Tucker: Yeah, phyllis told me about her trip to portugal. You seem surprised. Did you not know?

Daniel: [ Chuckles ]

Tucker: Oh, man, I’m sorry I-I overstepped. Pretend I didn’t say anything.

Daniel: No. No, no, I-I appreciate the information. Not a big fan of surprises, especially ones concocted by my mother.

Tucker: Mm. Yeah, I’m — again, I’m sorry if I caused you any trouble. Listen, I got to get going, but I’m really looking forward to continuing this conversation. So, alright, man? Give me a call anytime you want. Okay?

Daniel: Thank you.

Tucker: Alright. See you.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Daniel: [ Clears throat ] I don’t know what you think you’re doing, but you better stop. You better not have gotten on that plane.

Devon: [ Sighing ] Oh, yeah. Oh.

Abby: Hey, you.

Devon: Hey.

Abby: I just got here. Dominic had a busy day at the play gym, so I put him down for a nap.

Devon: Oh, nice.

Abby: Is everything okay? What’s on your mind?

Devon: Um, I just ran into victoria at the coffeehouse, and now I can’t shake the feeling that she’s up to something with tucker.

Abby: Why would victoria be involved with tucker in any way?

Devon: I have zero idea. But she seemed oddly curious about my relationship status with him, and I don’t know if it had anything to do with chancellor-winters or not, but…

Abby: Weird. Um… [ Chuckles ]

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Abby: Oh, I actually had an interesting run-in with your sister, and she said some things that surprised me.

Devon: How so?

Abby: I thought that lily was fighting you over hamilton-winters because she wanted to hang on to the winters half of chancellor-winters.

Devon: If she’s not, why is she fighting me at all and refusing to sell me my company back?

Abby: Or maybe that’s her way of getting you to stay on.

Devon: How does she figure that’s gonna work? Getting me to stay on board? What, she wants to unify our family by not listening to my concerns and refusing to sell me back hamilton-winters?

Abby: Look, I know that it sounds crazy, but I saw lily’s pain. I could hear it in her voice. And, yes, maybe for jill, it’s about the bottom line. But for lily, I think she just wants to hang on to her dream. The dream of you two working together. She doesn’t want to hang on to hamilton-winters. She wants to hang on to you.

[ Paper tearing ]

Esther: Knock, knock.

[ Chuckles ]

Lily: Hey.

Esther: [ Chuckling ] Hi. I thought you could use a pick-me-up, and I made it just the way you like it.

Nick: I know you were hoping you wouldn’t have to deal with the reality of becoming a parent for a little while longer. But it sounds like your pregnancy has other plans in mind. I know it can be overwhelming.

Sally: Oh, you don’t know. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I just — I-I-I am overwhelmed.

Nick: I know. I know. You’re not alone in this. Okay? I’m right here with you.

Sally: I just don’t want this to put any pressure on us. I mean, we’re supposed to be taking things slow. We’re just figuring this out. You know what this is, who we are.

Nick: Stop. We don’t have to think about things like that. We only have to look as far ahead as your next doctor’s appointment, okay?

Sally: Okay.

[ Sniffles ]

Kyle: I feel like I’m taking a big risk opening up my heart to you again. I thought you were gone forever. And then you just showed up, and I had to wrap my head around the fact that you purposefully abandoned me. You let me believe you were dead. And when I found out you were alive, all those memories came rushing back. You can’t imagine what that was like.

Diane: Uh, you’re right. I — I can’T.

Kyle: And I had to reconcile the existence of a woman who could do that to her son with the nurturing mother I remember from my childhood. And you swore you worked for years to turn your life around, and you came back to ask my forgiveness, to be in my life and harrison’S. And I desperately wanted to believe you were genuine, that the hole you had left could be filled, and you have filled it to a large degree. But it is still hard to quiet the lingering doubts in the recesses of my mind.

Diane: Tsk. I… I don’t know if I will ever be able to heal the wound that I create. But, kyle, you have to believe me that you and harrison are the reason I came back, the reason I’ve stayed.

Kyle: Yeah, but we continue to be surprised by secrets from your past. The danger jeremy stark brought to our family. The risky plot you enlisted my dad in.

Diane: That wasn’t my intent.

Kyle: I know it was mostly dad’s idea, but he became a jewel thief for you. He stole from summer’s grandmother for you. So, excuse me if I have some reservations about where this relationship with my father could lead.

Diane: [ Sighs ] We pulled people off the street

Esther: Oh! Oh, you’re here! Oh. Oh, gosh. Uh-oh, I-it’s too much. Sorry. I-I-I just got caught up.

Devon: It’s okay. You alright?

Esther: I-I-I promise, I’m being discreet and not engaging in office gossip. But I want you to know that I absolutely adore you. You’re mrs. C’s grandson, and dom is katherine’s sweet great-grandchild. And I absolutely love working here for her family and for yours. And I-I-I’m just praying that you and your sister can work things out.

Devon: Oh, thank you very much for saying that. It means a lot to me. But I promise you, we’re gonna be just fine. We are. Sometimes things have to change, and you know, it’s the way things are. But I’m glad that you’re still the same esther that I’ve always known and loved.

Esther: Oh, back at you, sweetheart. Oh. Mwah.

Devon: Appreciate you.

Esther: I so love you.

Devon: We’ll be just fine. I’ll see you.

Esther: Okay, okay.

[ Door closes ]

[ Doorbell rings ]

Tucker: Oh, abby. Hi. I didn’t expect to see you. Did I knock on the wrong door?

Abby: Devon’s not here. I’m watching dominic. You know, devon and I are co-parents, so it shouldn’t be that surprising to see me here.

Tucker: No, just cut me a little off guard. May I come in? I got a little gift for dominic.

Abby: Dominic’s sleeping. And don’t think that this gift is gonna win any favor with devon or score any points with me.

Tucker: Your unapologetic disdain for me is very refreshing.

Abby: Well, there’s no need to fake civility, now that we know the real reason you’re in town.

Tucker: Oh, yeah. I understand why you might feel that way, given what you’ve heard, but I don’t believe you know the whole story. Will you give me a minute so I can tell you the rest of it?

Abby: [ Sighs ]

[ Footsteps approaching ]

[ Knock on door ]

Adam: Can I talk to you for a minute?

Jack: Absolutely. Come on in.

Adam: Hmm.

Jack: How’s it going?

Adam: Pretty smoothly. Or so I thought [Clears throat] Up until today.

Jack: Oh?

Adam: I just, uh, wanted to let you know that things might get a little more tumultuous around here.

Jack: Why is that?

Adam: Well, I don’t know all the details, but I found out that victor is working on a scheme to pull the rug out from under me here at jabot.

Jack: I can’t say I’m surprised. It’s kind of a classic victor move. Is he punishing you for leaving newman?

Adam: Well, according to nick, he wants to force me to come back to the company and the family. Guessing he thinks, if I failed here, it’d be a motivator to bring me back home.

Jack: Never ceases to amaze me how that man’s mind works.

Adam: ‘Cause it’s so twisted.

Jack: You said that, not me.

Adam: Well, at least, now that I know there is a plan in the works, I can avoid the trap.

Jack: We can handle victor and whatever plans he has.

Adam: Mm-hmm. There is one other thing that I need to tell you that I don’t think you’re going to be happy about. I suspect that kyle is involved.

Diane: Now that jeremy stark is out of our lives, there’s no more danger. And there are no more secrets from my past.

Kyle: Relieved to hear that.

Diane: And I’m not going to hurt jack or break his heart.

Kyle: There’s a part of me that sincerely hopes this works out. And my dad has assured me that he is walking into this with his eyes wide-open. But relationships implode all the time for all kinds of reasons. What happens if that’s the case? What will you do?

Diane: You’re still afraid that I’m going to leave again. Kyle, listen to me.

Tucker: I’m — I’m crystal clear on the boundaries. I appreciate you letting me, uh, tell my side of things.

Abby: [ Scoffs ] I cannot wait to hear how you twist reality to fit your agenda.

Tucker: I profoundly regret how I bungled my attempt to reconnect with devon. I came back to genoa city expressly to bond with him, both professionally and personally. But I handled it wrong and made a major miscalculation.

Abby: It’s interesting how you left my mother out of your mea culpa.

Tucker: No, I wronged her, too. But while she’s on a different continent, there’s not much I can do about that. But I don’t plan on throwing in the towel when it comes to devon. I-I genuinely want to find a way to make things right with him. Uh, I’m just not gonna give up on my own son or my grandson.

Abby: Well, you should, immediately.

Tucker: Excuse me?

Abby: Devon is going through a lot right now. And the last thing he needs is more trouble from you. All you do is bring pain and turmoil into people’s lives. You’re bad news. You always have been.

Tucker: You’re protective of devon, and I admire that.

Abby: You should go… now.

[ Sighs ]

Tucker: I’ll be back another time…

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Tucker: …Because this is not the end of this.

Abby: It is, if I have anything to say about it. Here’s a little advice. Don’t cross me. Don’t cross us.

[ Door slams ]

[ Sighs ]

Lily: This is a surprise. What, uh — what’s going on?

Devon: Abby told me about the conversation you guys had.

Lily: Okay, what did — what did she say?

Devon: She said that you told her that the real reason that you want to keep ahold of hamilton-winters isn’t just to strengthen the ipo, but rather to keep me on board so we can keep working together as a family.

Lily: Yes. Yes, that’s true. So I hope the fact that you’re here means that you believe it.

Devon: No, I’m here because it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. And I don’t know why you would use abby to influence me one way or the other.

Lily: Uh, [Chuckles] Okay. Uh, no, I did not seek her out. We ran into each other. And, yeah, I was talking to her because I thought maybe she could get you to hear what I haven’t been able to do, which is that I’m sad and I’m scared because I’m afraid of how ugly this lawsuit could get. And I don’t want us to have what we created fall apart.

Devon: Yeah, but realize it’s only fallen apart because of what you or jill are doing to me. You’re siding with her to move forward with this ipo, despite how I feel, and now you’re not giving me my company back.

Lily: Devon, that’s not true. I-I want you to stay here. I want us to keep working together.

Devon: Right, as long as i go along with you and jill. A partnership doesn’t work like that. And you claim to care about neil’s legacy, but you won’t let me protect hamilton-winters properly. So you’re just proving to me that you care more about profits and jill’s agenda than you do your family or me.

Lily: [ Sighs ]

Devon: And the fact that you don’t see it that way, it hurts.

Kyle: [ Sighing ] Man. I want to believe you. I do. Just like all the other times, I’ve given you the benefit of the doubt. Of course, I want you and dad to be happy. Why wouldn’t I? But you’ve asked me to be honest about how I feel. That’s what I’m doing. And in my heart, I’m scared another shoe is gonna drop.

Diane: Kyle, I promise, there are no more secrets. There are no more surprises from my past.

Jack: I know kyle had real reservations about my hiring you to replace him, but I can’t imagine he would purposely try to sabotage you. Least of all, with victor.

Adam: Okay, trust me, jack, I didn’t want to believe it either, but I saw victor and kyle together. And frankly, their cover story wasn’t very convincing. And I know my father has a good poker face, but I read him pretty well, and I know how he operates.

Jack: As do I.

Adam: Look, I’m not trying to cause any trouble for you or for the company. I just — I’m trying to avoid that. Just thought you’d like to know that I think your son is conspiring with my father to take me down.

Jack: [ Sighs ]
