Billy: No comment. The family is requesting privacy at this moment. No need to call tomorrow ’cause you’re gonna get the same two words. Know them. Learn them. No comment.

Kyle: You doing the same thing I’ve been doing?

Billy: Trying to find new and exciting ways to tell these reporters to buzz off?

Kyle: Mm. Mariah’s coming back from maternity leave early to help us manage the situation.

Billy: That’s good. All hands on deck. We’ve been at this for a few hours right now and I don’t see it slowing down.

Kyle: I was hoping work would be an distraction from my family’s problems. Instead, the problems are swallowing up everything else.

Jack: Have you had any luck getting a trace on stark’s money? Well, that’s a disappointment. Have you tried overseas? That’s where he usually stashes his cash. Okay. Leave no stone unturned, please. My fiancé’s freedom is at stake.

[ Groans ]

Ashley: You okay? Sure I don’t have to ask you what that phone call was about.

Jack: What is happening to diane is in travesty of justice.

Ashley: Okay, and you’re gonna set things straight.

Jack: Well, I’m certainly gonna help.

Ashley: What does that exactly mean? Who were you talking to?

Jack: Michael put me in touch with a financial forensics expert who is working on diane’s defense.

Ashley: Okay. Well, michael’s her attorney, so let him handle things, jack.

Jack: I’m trying to help him.

Ashley: What kind of help can you provide?

Jack: I am trying to save my fiancee from a life behind bars.

Ashley: I get it. So, you’re gonna make sure that once again, diane doesn’t have to take responsibility for her actions.

[ Daniel groaning ]

Daniel: No!

Lily: Hey. Hey. It’s okay. You just had a bad dream. You okay?

Daniel: Mm-hmm. Yeah, um, it’s just a dream. Just a dream.

Lily: Hey, I’m here, okay? You’re okay.

Victor: Tucker, my man.

Tucker: Thanks for meeting me.

Victor: Thank you. It’s a rather strange venue for you to choose to have this meeting. I mean, considering what happened here.

Tucker: For me, it’s just a bar with a good bourbon selection and good music.

Victor: That’s a really cavalier description of this place.

Tucker: I can tell you that phyllis would feel the same way if it were me in the morgue.

Victor: Uh-huh.

Tucker: Anyway, you ready to talk business?

Victor: Yeah. So I read through this contract, I liked it. I put my signatures to it. And so can you. Um… then, your company will become mine.

Tucker: You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?

Victor: I don’t give a damn how I feel. When it comes to business, I’m cold as ice. You know that. So, would you sign? Unless, of course, you have some reservations. That’s me before dawn powerwash.

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by… eggland’s best.

Lily: Do you remember your dream?

Daniel: I was, uh, outside of the coffee house and I see mom at the end of the street, so I started racing towards her. It was like just as I got to her, suddenly I was back in my house in savannah. It was– it was just like before I came back to genoa city. Heather wasn’t there, lucy wasn’t there. I mean, the house, it– it just felt bigger. Emptier. Really lonely.

Lily: I know. I had that happen when my dad died. It’s like I would wake up and think for a second that he was back and–

[ Lily sighing ] Or I would be walking somewhere and see someone that I thought resembled him.

Daniel: It actually happened.

Lily: Really?

Daniel: Yeah. It was the day at the memorial. There was this woman there who must have been her height. I– I saw her like just real quick from the side, but I mean, I still had to do a double take. Obviously, it wasn’t her, but you know, for a minute there gave me hope. And then, it’s just back to reality. That kind of crushed me.

Lily: I know. I’m sorry. But listen, once you get through this wave of grief, you’re gonna have random moments that remind you of your mom and it’s gonna help keep her spirit alive.

Daniel: I’m really glad you’re here. Does– it helps being with someone who gets it. Look, I also, I know it’s a lot, so if you need to go–

Lily: Where would I go and why would I?

Daniel: I’m just saying. You know, if you wanna pretend like what happened here between the two of us, it didn’t happen, then I’d understand.

[ Pours drink ]

Billy: Here you go. Cheers to you because you’ve been burning the candle on both ends.

Kyle: Yeah. I’m doing everything I can to help my parents. I’m fielding media requests and whatever else I can do to help my dad free up his time because he needs to be spending it proving my mother’s innocence.

Billy: Have you talked to her lately?

Kyle: Briefly. At the arraignment. Dad went to visit her this afternoon. She told him not to come back. She doesn’t want us to visit her, supposedly for her own good.

Billy: I’m sorry, man. That’s tough.

Kyle: I’m hoping she’ll change her mind. She needs to know we’re in this together, doing everything we can to get her out of there.

Billy: Look, it’s good that you’re supporting her and of course, you would and jack for that matter, but you cannot neglect your own life in the process. You know, you’re telling me that this situation is affecting your marriage. Take it from the king of failed relationships, you’ve got to fix that problem before it’s too late. You cannot lose summer.

Jack: Maybe this is not a good day to take jabs at diane. I thought on maybe some basic human level, you might actually sympathize with her plight.

Ashley: Why would I?

Jack: She’s being locked up for a crime she didn’t commit. That doesn’t resonate with you? At least you know what it feels like to be wrongly accused.

Ashley: Oh, I do, indeed, because of diane. And just for the record, I think she’s rightfully accused.

Jack: Wow. You take some pleasure in saying that, don’t you? Like you won something. You are wrong. She is innocent and she is suffering and because she has been denied bail, she refuses to even see me.

Ashley: Okay, well that’s the wisest decision she’s ever made. Listen to her and move on, please.

Jack: Even if you actually believe diane was guilty of murder, the level of spite in this conversation is outrageous. She was framed, ash.

Ashley: You keep saying that. But the way I see it, she had every reason to want phyllis out of the picture so she could have everything. So she could have the loving relationship, the job at marchetti, the home in the abbott mansion and your ring on her finger.

What are folks 60 and older

up to these days?

Tucker: I have no reservations about selling my company. I’m done with this town and I’m done with mccall unlimited. It used to be my passion, now it’s just a burden I no longer wish to carry.

Victor: Oh, my god. How touching, tucker. You expecting my sympathy or what?

Tucker: I think I know you a little better than that.

Victor: All right. If it makes you feel better, I just want you to know that your company will continue to thrive, you know. Although, I may change its name.

Tucker: I couldn’t care less what you call it. I just– I’m looking forward to it not being my problem anymore.

Victor: Well, then why don’t you put that pen to paper.

Tucker: Just for due diligence, I would like to look it over one last time.

[ Victor laughing ]

Victor: Do I need to remind you that you are the one who came running to me?

Tucker: Mm. I know that. And I’m gonna sign it soon. You have my word.

Victor: Well, in that case, I’m looking forward to the confirmation of your signature.

[ Both sighing ]

Kyle: Summer moved into a guest room.

Billy: Uh-oh. Separate rooms is the first step towards separate lives. Are you two fighting?

Kyle: That’s the thing. We’d almost be better if we were. She’s just completely shut down. She said she’s moved rooms because she didn’t want to wake me with her tossing and turning. But I think she can’t bear to look at me. She’s convinced my mother killed hers.

Billy: That’s a relationship dilemma I’ve never dealt with.

Kyle: Yeah. And the only solution I see is to clear my mother’s name, not only for her innocence but for my marriage. Summer is so inside her head right now.

Billy: What do you mean by that?

Kyle: She only comes out of her room when she wants to spend time with harrison. And when she does, she puts on a good front, laughing and smiling and reading stories. But once she’s alone again, she completely shuts down.

Billy: Sounds like she’s dealing with grief in her own way.

Kyle: I get that. And I want her to have all the space and time she needs, but I’m not so sure she can heal on her own. So, I don’t know what to do because if I can’t talk to her, I can’t help her. And every time we do talk, it only makes things worse. The only solution I see is to clear my mother’s name.

Billy: I hear you. But you’re dead wrong.

Kyle: Why did I even start this conversation with you?

Billy: Because you need someone to talk to and I’m the only one here. You may not like my advice and I can’t force you to listen to me, but there’s a better way to help summer.

Jack: You seem to think I accepted everything diane said without any doubt. I had my doubts. I expressed them. I took a good look at them and I set them aside. Here’s what I believe. Diane is not capable of committing what she’s been accused of.

Ashley: And here’s what I believe. I think she is absolutely capable.

Jack: And I did not choose diane over phyllis. My relationship with phyllis had run its course long before diane came back into my life. One did not preclude the other. And just so we’re clear, while I am defending diane, I am mourning phyllis’s loss. I loved that woman very much and she was once a part of my family.

Ashley: Okay. But here’s the thing, jack. You know that I was never a phyllis fan, but even I saw what was going on. You took every opportunity to turn your back on phyllis when diane came to town. You did. And there was still something going on with phyllis. You know that. You can’t deny it.

Jack: Diane did not steal anything from phyllis. Not her job, not me, not any part of her life. Phyllis was an amazing woman, but she had a habit of getting in her own way a lot and you know that.

Ashley: Kind of sounds like you’re blaming phyllis for her own murder and that’s worse.

Jack: I want the actual killer of phyllis to face justice every bit as much as I want diane to be exonerated, but I believe diane is in jail right now for a crime jeremy stark committed.

Ashley: Yeah, you’re right. Diane’s a martyr. She is paying for all the sins that everybody else has committed. I see that now.

Jack: Diane is not perfect. No. She has made more than her share of mistakes. She’s hurt a lot of people. But unlike you, I believe people can change, people can grow, people can transform and I think diane has changed. And I think she is incapable of murder. So, I am going to defend the woman I love, the woman I intend to marry.

Ashley: Oh, my god. You still intend to marry her. You are such a fool. And you are reckless, jack. Not just with your legacy, but with my family’s and I’ve got a problem with that. I’ve got a big problem. You are willing to tie the entire abbott clan to a woman who’s gonna drag everybody down with her! Hi, my name is tony cooper. I used to wait to run my dishwasher

Lily: We’re still in bed, so I think it’s a little late to pretend nothing happened.

Daniel: But you want to?

Lily: No. No. We have a connection and a history and I think we both wanted and needed this.

Daniel: I’m just glad this won’t mess things up between the two of us.

Lily: No, it won’T. You know, we don’t have to pretend like nothing happened, but we also don’t have to make it more than it was.

Daniel: And when I look at you, the lonely feeling that was in my dream just feels very far away.

Lily: Well, I’m really happy that I can help you find some solace from things, but no one else can help you but you. I know that grief transforms you and you will carry the loss of your mom with you forever. And there will be times that it feels like it just happened, even though it’s been a long time, but you have to take care of yourself. That is the most important thing right now.

Daniel: That’s what I’m trying to do.

Kyle: Billy, you’re not listening. I have tried every approach. She doesn’t wanna be around me. She doesn’t wanna look at me or be in the same room as me, so pushing her isn’t going to work.

Billy: Kyle, you’re a good person, okay? Of course, you’re gonna respect her time and her space, but you take that too far, those wounds, they become scar tissue. The distance becomes a chasm. Trust me, it’s really difficult to get back to where you were.

Kyle: What are you suggesting?

Billy: You gotta get her to listen. You go home. You make sure she knows how much you love her. You don’t mention diane, you don’t mention phyllis, you don’t mention any of the noise that’s swirling around you. You reassure her that you are not going anywhere. And when she’s ready to open up that door to you, you are standing there waiting with open arms.

Audra: Drinking alone?

Tucker: No, I’m here with all my friends.

Audra: [ Chuckles ] Well, that’s what happens when a guy burns every bridge.

Tucker: Hmm. Did you drop by just to rub it in?

Audra: Not necessarily. So, what are we, uh, drinking and thinking about?

Tucker: That’s funny you should ask. I was just thinking about the difference between being alone and being lonely. You know, I spent months in that ashram alone.

[ Laughs ] I never felt as lonely as I do right now.

Audra: Hmm. Look, I– I know I gave you a hard time about ashley, but I’m sorry it didn’t work out.

Tucker: I have no idea how I got here. Sure has been a long and winding road though. You know when I never felt lonely when I was young, just starting out in the music business.

Audra: Yeah. I’m– I’m sure a young tucker mccall was really alone.

Tucker: No, but it was all exciting, being around engaging, interesting people and managing bands, signing new artists.

Audra: All right. All right.

[ Chuckles ] Those glasses are pretty damn rosy. What you loved was signing artists to contracts they didn’t understand so they could make hits for you without getting properly compensated.

Tucker: Yeah. The good old days.

Audra: Okay.

Tucker: You and I had some good times, didn’t we?

Audra: We had our moments.

Tucker: Hey, I’m gonna go back up to my room. Would you join me? Moderate to severe eczema

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue.

Billy: Thank you. See you later. Hi.

Lily: [ Laughs ] Are– are you heading out?

Billy: Yeah. Yeah. Just grabbing some takeout.

Lily: Yeah. Yeah, we’re gonna eat as well.

Billy: How you holding up?

Daniel: As good as I can be, I suppose.

Billy: Yeah. I thought I should let you know that the media scrutiny around diane’s case is only growing, especially now that leanna love’s article published today. I really hope you don’t have to deal with any of that garbage, but you might.

Daniel: Mm. Thanks for the heads up.

Lily: We’ll get the pr team to draft a statement.

Daniel: I appreciate it, but that’s not necessary.

Lily: No, I know, but you’re an employee now now at chancellor-winters, so just direct any questions to us.

Daniel: I can handle it.

Lily: I know. Just let me do this for you.

[ Chuckles ]

Daniel: She’s hard to say no to.

Billy: Really? I hadn’t noticed. You’re in good hands. Lily knows how to take care of people. That’s why she’s in the big chair.

Lily: We should probably get a table, so have– have a good night.

Billy: Yeah, you too. Goodnight.

Audra: This is the contract for the sale of mccall unlimited?

Tucker: Mm-hmm.

Audra: That’s a big deal. This could be very rewarding for you.

Tucker: Hey, but you wanna know the best part? Check this out. It’s victor’s pen. I stole it from him.

Audra: This is a big change. No wonder you were ruminating on your start in the music business. It’s the foundation of your empire.

Tucker: It was the foundation.

Audra: You said you wanted to be free, right? There’s your ticket.

Tucker: It wasn’t supposed to end this way, audra.

Audra: Okay. It’s just one chapter coming to an end.

Tucker: What– whatever comes next for me, it’s not gonna happen in genoa city, I’ll tell you that.

Audra: So you’re definitely leaving town then? Makes sense. You’ve always been more of a big city kind of guy.

Tucker: Hey, you know, the money from this sale will mean that I can start over anywhere. What do you say? You wanna blow this town? Hm? Come on, let’s go. You wanna be my right hand again?

Billy: Got all your favorites. And I was thinking that maybe we can go have a picnic in the park because it is a beautiful night out there.

Chelsea: Two meals together in one day. You are setting a dangerous precedent.

Billy: I am willing to risk it if you are.

Chelsea: [ Laughs ] Let’s live on the edge.

Billy: Yeah.

Chelsea: What?

Billy: Nothing. Nothing. I’m just– I’m happy.

Chelsea: Well, I’m glad you’re happy

Billy: And I’m feeling lucky.

Chelsea: Why? I know the ceviche is really good. It’s society but–

Billy: [ Laughs ] Actually, speaking of society, I ran into, uh, lily and daniel while I was there.

Chelsea: Huh? How’s daniel?

Billy: He seemed okay, but I think your instincts were right to give him a little bit of space right now.

Chelsea: Okay. Well, good. I’m glad I didn’t approach him then.

Billy: You know, I picked up on a little something between the two of them.

Chelsea: Really?

Billy: Mm.

Chelsea: Something romantic? How do you feel about that?

Jack: You won’t allow me to marry the woman I love. That is ridiculous. My relationship with diane has nothing to do with you, and it will hardly bring down the family name.

Ashley: You know you had a problem with me going on a date with tucker, but it’s okay for you to marry a murderer.

Jack: Okay. I’ve had enough of that conversation. Diane didn’t kill anyone.

Ashley: You don’t know that for a fact! And what about the fallout? What about when word gets out that you’re marrying a woman that’s going on trial for murder? You don’t think people are gonna be affected by that one, jack? People like summer, like daniel. You don’t think jabot’s reputation is gonna take a huge hit trying to survive that?

Jack: I’m doing everything I can to exonerate diane before this ever goes to trial.

Ashley: Well, good luck. Let’s just push the physical evidence aside. What about the– the– the history diane has with phyllis, the hatred that goes back decades. She faked her death. Remember that? Diane faked her death. Let innocent people be arrested for it. When the word gets out about that, people are gonna understand that she’s absolutely capable of killing phyllis. They’ll know that if–

[ Door slamming ]

Kyle: Don’t bother trying to hide what you’re arguing about. I could hear you from outside the door.

Jack: No, I’m sorry. This is a difficult time for all of us, especially you and–

Kyle: Dad, I– I don’t wanna get into it right now. I need to talk to summer.

Jack: Can’t you see the pain he is in? We have enough heartache, enough misery in this house without you injecting your bitterness. If you can’t hold back your rage for diane, I suggest you move out. (Vo) get them to open up.

Audra: You’re moving fast, tucker.

[ Sighs ] You know, we went from an invitation to your suite to an invitation to anywhere in the world.

Tucker: Yeah. Is that a yes?

[ Audra laughs ]

Audra: You know, I have senior executive position at newman media with room for growth.

Tucker: You’re telling me that working for victoria newman is a dream of yours?

Audra: No, but I’m learning from her, okay, and I plan to teach her a thing or two as well.

Tucker: Ah, yes. Always an agenda, right?

Audra: You taught me well. Besides, genoa city has grown on me. Now, there are some fascinating people here too.

Tucker: I should have known you’d hedge your bets just like ashley and devon. Just like them, you’re pushing me away because you think– you think there are greener pastures somewhere, right? Let me tell you something, audra, most of the time there aren’T.

Audra: Oh, my god. You know what your problem is? You crave to be the center of other people’s lives. And when you don’t get total devotion or allegiance, you turn bitter. Now, I guess all that work you did on yourself didn’t really take. Ashley is right. You haven’t changed, but I knew that all along.

Tucker: I’m sorry that I asked you up here. I guess you should go, huh?

Audra: Yeah. Don’t wallow in your misery too long, tucker, because when you finally come out of that hole, no one will care you’re back.

[ Door slamming ]

Daniel: Did running into billy– was that awkward?

[ Lily laughing ]

Lily: Uh, yeah. A little. But I mean, we broke up months ago and, you know, I’m entitled to my own personal life too.

Daniel: Sure. Sure you are. But, you know, I couldn’t help notice that you were avoiding eye contact with him.

Lily: Yeah. Well, I mean, maybe the timing wasn’t ideal.

[ Laughs ]

Daniel: Look, everyone’s got complicated feelings when it comes to their exes, but, you know, you’ve been so generous listening to me talk about heather, and now losing my mom that I just– why don’t you let me repay the favor by listening to whatever you have to say about billy.

Lily: Well, thank you. But I mean, how long have you known me?

Daniel: Really? Um… many, many years. I– I don’t know. Too many to count.

Lily: Right. And how many times have I, you know, wallowed over a failed relationship?

Daniel: I can’t think of any.

Lily: Yeah. I just, I– I don’t do it. You know, even with kane. It’s like, that hurt a lot but, you know, I was back on my feet in no time.

Daniel: I don’t know how you do it. You know, you’re not the love him and leave him type. You– you get in a relationship and you’re committed and you’re caring.

Lily: I don’t know. I just, I don’t– I don’t like looking back. I wanna look forward. And I think it has a lot to do with being a cancer survivor. You know, when you go through something like that, you realize that life is way too precious to get bogged down by a failed relationship.

Daniel: Are you insinuating that I should be more like that?

Lily: [ Laughs ] No, I mean, you’re different. You– you wanna know why something didn’t work. You know, you need to analyze all the details. Like, I– that’s not me. Like, we’re just, we’re different that way.

Daniel: Maybe that’s why we get along so well.

Lily: Yes. Maybe.

[ Daniel chuckling ]

Daniel: Can you, um, can you do me a favor though?

Lily: Oh, god. What?

[ Laughing ]

Daniel: Can you wallow just a little bit? You know, just for me. Just give me something. Anything.

[ Lily laughing ]

Lily: What?

Billy: I guess I’m relieved if lily’s moving on with– with daniel. You know, she deserves more than I could give her in the end and uh, I hope that’s what she’s looking for.

Chelsea: Look at you. That healthy attitude of growth and maturity.

Billy: Pretty impressive, isn’t it? I’m just simply taking a page out of your book, you know? You– you seem to have really good relationships with your exes.

Chelsea: Except when I went off the deep end over adam and sharon.

Billy: You had a stroke. I would chalk that up to a severe medical issue.

Chelsea: Oh, that’s generous. But the rough patch I went through definitely lasted longer than I care to admit.

Billy: But you came out the other side. I mean, look what you’ve overcome. And I see a fully realized beautiful woman in front of me that deserves happiness.

Chelsea: Well, you make me happy.

Billy: Back at you. You know, I guess that’s why I’m– I’m okay with lily and daniel because it allows me to move on as well.

Chelsea: And is that what you’re doing?

Billy: Pretty sure I am. Yeah.

Chelsea: You know, conner is spending the night tonight at the ranch.

Billy: Is that right?

Chelsea: I can’t believe I just said that out loud.

Billy: Yeah, you did say that out loud, but you can’t take it back now.

Chelsea: I don’t wanna take it back. I’m feeling very strong emotionally, mentally.

Billy: But?

Chelsea: But it’s been a long time since I’ve been with someone.

Billy: It’ll be okay. It’s like riding a bike.

[ Chelsea laughing ] Tv: Try tide power pods with 85% more tide in every pod.

Lily: Look, I don’t think about billy. You know, we had a moment and it was beautiful, but it’s over. So, I am here with you now. Very present.

[ Laughing ]

Daniel: Still no regrets?

Lily: What? Of course not. No. What happened with us was organic and natural. You know, it’s funny ’cause I feel like we’ve known each other for a very long time, since we were teenagers and we have always managed to navigate all the twists and turns of our relationship and I hope that continues. Whatever is meant to happen will happen. And you know, with billy, I mean, if we’re meant to be friends, then we will be. And if we’re not, then we won’T.

Daniel: That is very zen for a ceo.

Lily: Yeah. I may continue to surprise you.

[ Both laughing ]

Billy: You know what? I just realized that I forgot the food downstairs. Can I– can I go get it?

Chelsea: Don’t you dare.

Billy: No? You’re right.

Chelsea: Mm-hmm.

Billy: That’s a stupid question.

Chelsea: Mm-hmm.

Billy: But I am gonna ask you one more time.

Chelsea: I am.

Billy: Are you sure you’re okay?

Chelsea: Yeah.

Billy: I can ask another way, you know.

Chelsea: No. I’ve never been so sure.

[ Chelsea panting ]

Kyle: Summer? You don’t have to open the door or say anything. I know you can hear me. I’m not gonna let you push me away. I’m worried about you and I wanna make it easier for you. I don’t know how yet, but you need to know I’m not going anywhere. I’m gonna keep trying until something works. So, my latest idea is this: But talking but to– together. I– I– I promise you, if you open this door, we don’t have to say a word. I just wanna hold you. Summer, please open the door.

Ashley: I am so sick and tired of you trying to kick me out of my own home. And you’ve been doing this ever since you got back with diane and it’s just more evidence of how she has infected your attitude towards this whole family.

Jack: You are the one who has instigated all conflict, both with and about diane, all because I wouldn’t give into your preposterous demand that I ban the woman I love from this house. That’s not going to change. The minute diane is released, she’s coming back here.

Ashley: Are you threatening me? ‘Cause I’m not going anywhere. This is my home too, jack. It’s my birthright just as much as it is yours.

Jack: This is untenable, ash. This is not gonna work.

Ashley: Then you better move out. Why don’t you find yourself a nice little house next to whatever prison that diane is sent to once she’s convicted? And once that happens, I’m sure the jabot board will remove you before you take the entire company down with you. So yeah, you’re gonna have your nice little jailhouse wedding, but diane’s gonna cost you everything that ever meant anything to you.

Kyle: Marchetti’s operating expenses rose because the employee headcount increased when we acquired those textile factories from Newman. If you had looked carefully, you would have noticed–

Billy: That wasn’t at all condescending, was it?

Kyle: If you had looked carefully, you would have noticed that those costs are more than offset by the contractor fees. Not to mention all the other added benefits of bringing manufacturing in-house.

Billy: Yeah, see the problem with that is that historically deals between Jabot and Newman haven’t worked out very well for Jabot.

Kyle: I made that deal with victor with my eyes wide open and it led to Adam’s departure. Paved the way for your return. So, how about a thank you, instead of criticizing?

Billy: No, I’m not criticizing, Kyle. My issue is with victor. I wouldn’t put it past the guy to force a bunch of troubled properties on Jabot.

Kyle: Targeting those factories was my idea, not Victor’s. I knew exactly what I was doing. The numbers are high right now, as expected, but everything is going according to plan.

Billy: Yeah, I still think we need to pay attention–

Kyle: Billy, Billy! I don’t need your opinion. I have complete autonomy over Marchetti, so whatever you think about my business decisions doesn’t really matter.

Billy: Just trying to get the lay of land before I actually dig in.

Kyle: The land is just fine.

Billy: Good to know. Since you are in the office today, I do have an idea on how to bring jabot and Marchetti together. If you’re willing to listen.

Billy: This is not my first stint at Jabot.

Kyle: No kidding. You’ve been CEO how many times? Co-CEO, your mom fired you, my dad fired you. Everybody has fired you.

Billy: But there’s a positive there, I’ve learned from my mistakes. And I’m also bringing the experience that I have from working at Chancellor-Winters when they went through their merger. I know how to bring two companies together. And under the current configuration, jabot is not maximizing the potential of having Marchetti under its umbrella.

Kyle: Thanks for your input, but our strategy of keeping Marchetti and Jabot separate from the beginning has proven successful. I see no reason to change course.

Billy: Sometimes, you gotta think outside the box, Kyle.

Kyle: And what about the Jabotiques? Weren’t those another one of your failures?

Billy: I’m gonna let that one slide because you’re under tremendous personal pressure.

Kyle: Yeah, I know you pride yourself on being that guy, the innovator, the idea guy, but sometimes, outside the box is just outside of the box.

Billy: And sometimes, it’s exactly what you need. And because this idea involves both Marchetti and Jabot, you can’t unilaterally veto it.

Kyle: And by the same token, you can’t unilaterally implement it. It’s my dad’s call.

Billy: Great. I’ll talk to jack, see what he has to say.

Kyle: Fine by me.

Billy: Wonderful.

Kyle: I’m going to lunch. I know what you’re trying to do, distract me with stupid business ideas. Thanks.

Billy: You’re welcome.

Adam: Aw, you shouldn’t have. I didn’t get you anything.

Sharon: I love that every time you see a gift you just assume it’s for you.

Adam: Uh, I’m sure if you look hard enough in your psychology books, that’s probably a symptom of some disorder.

Sharon: I don’t doubt that.

Adam :So, uh, who’s the gift for?

Sharon: Um, it’s for Mariah and Tessa. It’s their surprise baby shower this afternoon. They didn’t get to have one before aria was born, so…

Adam: Mm. Afraid they might jinx things?

Sharon: In a way. They were with the baby’s mother in Portland for weeks until she went into labor, and then Mariah insisted that it wasn’t necessary. But, you know, this has been such a long journey for them. I think it’s time to just soak up the joy.

Adam: Hmm. Well, not to mention, it’s your first grandchild. How is that not reason to celebrate?

Sharon: You are absolutely right.

**********************

Victor: That spectra woman can never be trusted. Yet here she is reeling in both of my sons. To tie herself closer to our family. Why on god’s green earth would I ever approve of that?

Nikki: You wouldn’t?

Victor: Then why the hell did the rest of you decide to keep this from me?

Nikki: No, that’s not it. It’s about letting things play out on their own. I mean, someday soon nicholas is going to wake up and realize that sally is totally wrong for him. And then it will be his decision to break up with her. If we interfere, I worry that it could blow up in our faces.

Victor: Baby, what if that never happens? What if she decides to carry this charade on indefinitely?

Nick: And what charade would that be?

Victor: A charade that you are involved with, son. The hell is the matter with you? You carry on with a woman that’s pregnant with your brother’s child. Are you mad? Why are you doing this? You torment your brother.

Mariah: Hi, mom.

Sharon: Well, hey. What are you doing here?

Mariah: There’s the maternal warmth I was looking for?

Sharon: No, i am being maternal. It was just A…reflex because I know that you hate leaving Tessa and the baby at home, and who could blame you? But I’m always glad to see you.

Mariah: Well, I am going to be heading home soon, but I just wanted to come here, pick up some treats and some much-needed coffee on my way back from jabot.

Sharon: The office? Why? I thought you were on parental leave.
Mariah: I am, but, uh, with Diane’s arrest, I just thought I could put in a few hours at work. I mean, she can’t handle her own pr crisis.

Sharon: The whole situation is so horrible.

Mariah: Yeah.

Sharon: But I’m sure that jack will really appreciate you stepping up at a time like this. You know, on the other hand, it’s also okay for you to put yourself and your family first. I mean, the first few days with your new baby are so precious.

***********************************

Sharon: Oh, look how cute. I am so grateful to know this sweet little girl.

Mariah: Yeah. This is from this morning. It was her first time waking up in her new room. Although she had, uh, been up for a few hours before that ’cause she needed to be fed. And it definitely wasn’t daytime out. The sun was not out, uh, but, uh, there’s no need to get into that. I am extremely grateful for every second.

Abby: Even when they’re fussy and they’re having their meltdowns.

Mariah: Uh, though, right here, she happens to be very cute and very, very bubbly. Are they not like this all the time?

Sharon: Oh, yeah, they are. They’re always a bundle of sunshine and rainbows.

Abby: Oh, yeah, and I’ve heard they stay that way. Yeah, the terrible twos are just a myth.

Mariah: Wow. Okay. Well, the less cute moments make the cute moments 10 times better. I mean, just look at those cheeks and those eyes. Oh, God, she’s an old soul.
[Gasps] I have become one of those people that won’t stop gushing about their kid.

Abby: Well, it’s a good thing you’re with two people who can’t hear enough about her.

Sharon: I could talk about this baby 24/7.

Nikki: Well, if it isn’t the man who restored my faith in attorneys.

Michael: What could I possibly have done to be worthy of that compliment?

Nikki: Ah, it’s what you didn’t do. Now, I know you have a soft spot for Diane and I will never understand why, but the way you refused to rush to her rescue at Phyllis’s memorial, trust me, we all got the message, loud and clear. If the best attorney in genoa city thinks she’s guilty and won’t go near her with a 10-foot pole, well…

Michael: Well, yeah. Well, have a seat, please. Nikki, our constitution assures all citizens are innocent until proven otherwise, even the ones who don’t measure up or haven’t earned your seal of approval.

Nikki: According to the constitution, yes. But the founding fathers never met Diane. We know what she’s capable of. She’s dangerous and now Phyllis is dead.

Michael: Correlation doesn’t equate causation.

Nikki: Your clever tone has me a little worried. Please tell me I don’t need to be.

Michael: Last night, I got a call from jack asking me to represent Diane.

Nikki: Oh, my god. That is outrageous. Michael, you can’t defend the woman who killed one of your best friends.

**********************************

Victor: Hello, Michael.

Nikki: I can only imagine the kind of nonsense jack was trying to feed you.

Victor: Well now, Michael is a very smart man and I’m sure he would do the right thing. Right, Michael?

Michael: I probably will.

Victor: You know, otherwise, you’d have to ask for a leave of absence and then I would have to approve it and then I might be inclined to fire you.

Michael: We wouldn’t want that.

Victor: We wouldn’t, would we?

Nikki: That’s what I love about you, Michael. You always manage to do the right thing.

Michael: Your faith in my decency is humbling. I’ll do my best to live up to it. Have a good meal.

Sharon: You are teasing me, right? Stop, where are they? Are they waiting outside? ‘Cause I’ll go out there and get them myself.

Mariah: No, no, no, no, no. Hold your horses. I will text her to come in. I just wanted to come in first to make sure the place was warm enough and, you know, there wasn’t anybody with any strong perfume, or nobody was, like, hacking up a lung. I know, I sound ridiculous. It’s a little embarrassing.

Sharon: No, no, it’s perfectly normal. You sound like a first-time parent. But now that you see none of those horrors are going on in here, bring her in here. Hurry up! I can’t wait to meet her.

Mariah: Well, there’s, uh– there’s no need. Ta-da.

Tessa: Hey, Sharon.

Sharon: Hi, Tessa. Finally. Oh, my gosh. Aw.

Mariah: Well, here she is. Meet Aria Porter Copeland.

Sharon: She is perfect. She’s absolutely perfect.

Tessa: Isn’t it crazy how pink her lips are? They’re so perfect.

Victoria: Fine. You got me.

Nick: You think?

Victoria: Look, why are you freaking out about this? When you have other things that you should be concerned about. Why are you not focusing on your family right now?

Nick: You are my family. I care about you. You’re making a terrible mistake.

Victoria: Well, there you go again, making another leap without any evidence to back it up.

Nick: He is in a relationship, Vic, with my friend.

Victoria: Yeah, yeah, I know. And you– you have a saintly past, free of guilt. Right, nick?

Nick: Well, he’s an executive here. He could have some ulterior motive. Maybe, uh, looking for some personal gain.

Victoria: What gain? That’s not Nate. That’s not who he is. Look, if he was up to something, I would know it anyway.

Nick: Oh, like you saw everything that was going down with Ashley?
Victoria: That was a completely different situation, and don’t you ever mention his name to me again. Do you understand?

Nick: [Sighs] Yes. Sorry. But this could be more of the same, you know?

Victoria: I’m not interested in your opinions or your judgment. I’m just not. I– I… you yourself had a relationship with the ceo of newman media, remember? And you– you firmly told me to stat out of it
And I have been nothing– nothing but respectful of your relationship with Sally.

Nick: Yes. And I appreciate it.

Victoria: So, would you please show me the same courtesy? You told me to keep quiet about her pregnancy and that adam is the father and I have done that. So, please, do the same for me. Abby: Do you believe all this stuff? I mean, this is insane. I am insane. My stuff, it’s grown exponentially. All my clothes, all of my shoes and don’t even get me started started on Dominic’s things. This is what happens when you have two of everything. One for when he’s with me, one for when he’s with you. I mean, uh, what are we gonna do? We need more storage? Do I need to rent another place downstairs for extra storage?

Devon: Hang on. Shh. Get your breath, okay? Welcome to your home.
Abby: Aw.

****************************************

Daniel: Um, I think that’s maybe my cue to speak. You know my mother, um, I don’t really know if I could sum mom up in mere words. A friend of mine once described her to me as fierce. I would definitely say that that is an understatement. You know how when you’re a kid, you think that your mom is the most beautiful person in the world. That’s how I saw her. That’s how I’ll always see her. You know, this is, um… just paint and paper. Um, it resembles her. But my mom, she… she was an adventure. I mean, she crackled, she dazzled.

[ Chuckling ]

She was unpredictable– you know, at the center of all of that there– there was this intense, just laser focused love. And it was that intensity that touched everything that she did, for better or for worse. I need to tell you, sometimes it was really hard to– to watch her just waste that brilliance. That sheer power that she had on the wrong things because she was that amazing. She really was and she shouldn’t be gone. No, I mean, not yet. Yeah, even in this, um, horrible, senseless death, I feel like she’s still trying to teach me. You know, she’s trying to teach me how to love better and to fight harder for and I feel like she’s trying to teach me how to protect the ones that you love and care about the most with everything that you’ve got. I just wish I could have learned those lessons while she was still alive. And I’m sorry. I’m sorry that I didn’t understand. I’m sorry that we fought. I’m sorry that I spent so much time away from you and I’m sorry that I won’t get any more time with you. I love you, mom. I always will. Why give your family just any eggs

If you need anything at all, please don’t hesitate to ask, and feel free to give me a job at the memorial. I would really like to be useful in some way.

Summer: To be honest, Sally, it never occurred to me that you would come to the memorial, when you so clearly don’t belong. You know we’re mourning my mother. Do you really think that she would want you there? Especially now that you’ve glommed onto my father. I hate that he is still with you when you’re pregnant with Adam’s baby. That is who you should be with. Adam. Because the two of you deserve each other. So, please just stay far, far away.

Nick: Hey, the, uh, barista had a question about your order.

Adam: Oh. Should I, uh, take some notes?

Sally: I don’t want to talk about Nick and me. Or you and me. And anything too serious is off limits. I really need less stress in my life right now.

Adam: What about babies? Parenthood? I mean, I could let you in on some of my trade secrets.

Sally: Please do. ‘Cause I could use some. When I think about all that I don’t know, it scares the crap out of me.

Adam: [Chuckles] Well, you and everyone else who is new to this. I mean look, even if you’ve read every book there is on this, when the kid arrives, it still throws you. Plus, every kid is different. So, whatever you’ve read or you’ve heard or you have planned to do, I mean, within the first few months it’s– gets thrown completely out the window.

Sally: So, learn to roll with the punches?

Adam: Mm. Exactly.

Sally: Mm. Well, that’s actually my forte.

Adam: Look, everyone’s a beginner. They just learn on the job. And eventually, the kid is gonna get older, and then you will become an expert on potty training, nighttime routines, discipline, homework, carpooling. Nick: What do you think I should do?

Victoria: Maybe don’t hover so much. Just give her a little space and make sure that you keep an eye on her, though, in case she’s taking on too much.

Jack: That is not true, Ash.

Ashley: I think it is, Jack. I almost expected to find you down here consoling her because your big engagement news got overshadowed by Phyllis’s dying.

Ashley: Oh, God.

Jack: I am not having this conversation.

Ashley: Let’s just be honest, Jack. After all the stress and anxiety that Diane caused Phyllis all these months, is it really just a coincidence? You announce your engagement to Diane and Phyllis collapses and then dies?

Jack: You have no evidence of that. That is speculation.

Ashley: I don’t have to speculate about all the misery that she’s brought to us because I have personally lived it. And now, you’re willing to turn your back on everyone and everything that you say you care about and you still wanna marry her.

Jack: That is enough.

Ashley: It’s not enough because I can’t get through to you and nobody can get through to you. I’m worried for you. I’m worried that you’re gonna suffer the same consequences of being involved with Diane that Phyllis did.

Jeremy: Okay. Well, then it’s a good thing our plan will stop Diane dead in her tracks.

**********************************

Phyllis: I mean, I know exactly what this woman’s gonna do. She’s
gonna make this whole gala about her and her engagement. She’s gonna celebrate. “Hey, I’m back from the dead, and I’m also the newest member of the Abbott family,” with this big, disgusting ring on her finger.

Jeremy: She is insufferable. I mean, the fact that she’s being so unjustly rewarded despite all the crimes she’s committed and all the lies she’s told.

Phyllis: I don’t understand this. I don’t understand why I’m the only one who sees her for who she is. I don’t get it.

Jeremy: You’re not alone anymore, Phyllis. You got me. And if she’s planning this big announcement tonight, I think it’s only right that we make our move, as well, to balance the scales of justice.

Phyllis: Okay. I mean, everything has to go as planned. It has to because if this blows up in my face…

Jeremy: That’s the beautiful thing about a masquerade ball. I can work my magic, and no one will even know I was there.

Billy: Hey, I didn’t expect you in the office today.

Kyle: Somebody’s got to run marchetti.

Billy: How are you– uh, you know what? Forget it. I’m not even gonna ask because I’m sure you’re sick of it.

Kyle: Yeah, it doesn’t help. What am I supposed to say? My mother’s being charged with killing my mother-in-law. She didn’t do it, but my wife thinks she did and so, until she’s proven innocent, my life is hanging on by a thread and so is my marriage.

Billy I’m really glad I didn’t ask. Still, I’m surprised you’re here.

Kyle: I need a distraction.

Billy: Well, I got one for you. Can you tell me what the hell is going on with marchetti’s operation budget from last quarter?

Abby: Hi, welcome.

Mariah: Hello. Wow, greeted at the door. Don’t we feel special?

Tessa: Sorry. We were a little late. Somebody was feeling fussy.

Mariah: Mm, guilty as charged. I changed my clothes like three times and it’s just lunch, but we don’t get out much these days. But we have the best reason in the world for staying in.

Abby: Oh, let me see her. Let me see her. Oh, my gosh. Look at this little sleeping beauty. Oh, she’s a little angel.

Tessa: Aria was such a party animal before we left, but we put her in the stroller and it put her right out. I’m afraid she’s gonna sleep straight through her first girl’s lunch.

Mariah: Thank you for the invite by the way.

Abby: I’m just glad you could make it. Shall we?

Tessa: Yeah.

Mariah: All right, let’s go.

Abby: Perfect.

All: Surprise!

Tessa: Oh, my gosh.

Abby: Welcome to your baby shower.

Tessa: Oh, my gosh.

Mariah: This is incredible.

Jack: How are you?

Diane: I’m okay.

Jack: How can you possibly be okay? Wrongly locked up, the press having a field day with wild speculations. The other inmates giving you a hard time?

Diane: No, jack. It’s all right. I, um, I can take care of myself. You don’t need to worry about me.

Jack: Whatever you need, I will use every connection I have to make this easier for you.

Diane: Jack.

Jack: We’ll get you more outdoor time. We can get you better accommodation.

Diane: Jack, please. Please just stop. There’s only one thing you can do for me.

Jack: Okay, name it.

Diane: Don’t come back.

Chance: I don’t think diane acted alone. She may have been the one that poisoned phyllis, but I think stark was in on the murder with her.

Christine: What has you so convinced?

Chance: Well, think about it. We don’t have a trace on this guy. He transferred all of the money that he got from phyllis out of our accounts, checked out of the grand phoenix, vanished into thin air. Does that sound like an innocent guy to you?

Christine: No, it doesn’T.

Chance: If he’s trying this hard to cover his tracks, I guarantee you he’s up to something.

Christine: I mean, it looks suspicious and I’m willing to consider the fact that diane and stark were co-conspirators, but I need more than your gut feeling to pursue charges against this guy.

Chance: Our only link to stark is diane. So, let’s put some pressure on her, you know, see what she knows. Give her a big enough incentive to flip, get her talking.

Christine: That would require a deal for leniency. And given the nature of the crime, it’s a non-starter.

Chance: But it might be worth it if we can get stark.

Christine: Diane has been locked up since before stark disappeared. So phone calls, visits, letters, they were all monitored. There’s no way they’ve been in contact.

Chance: What if they plan to split the inheritance? He makes an escape with the funds, they meet up later. If that’s the case, diane would know exactly where that guy’s hiding.

Michael: Did somebody mention my client’s name? Okay everyone, our mission is complete balanced nutrition.

Mariah: Thank you. Guys, this is awesome. You’re– you’re crazy. You’re crazy.

Tessa: You tricked us.

Abby: Well, this was all sharon’s idea. I am just so happy that I could help and I did have an ulterior motive because I wanted to meet this precious little angel. And I’m just so happy that she’s not gonna sleep through her entire shower.

Mariah: You know, I think I am totally rocking this sash. I’m not gonna take it off. Abby, you can throw us parties any time you want. Please. I just, I’m– I’m so grateful and I’m floored given everything that’s going on that– that you guys wanted to come together for us.

Sharon: Well, we could all use a little joy right now. A reminder of how wonderful life can be and there is nothing happier than a brand-new baby.

Abby: That is for sure. Well, we have all sorts of ways to welcome baby aria to genoa city. We have games, we have crafts, we have food. But first, a toast. To the new mamas, from mariah’s mama. Cheers.

All: Cheers. Cheers.

Michael: So, what did I miss?

Chase: Well, we were just wondering how diane was getting along in prison.

Michael: Ah. Sure you are.

Chase: Has she been in contact with anyone on the outside?

Michael: Well, just come out and ask your questions, detective. Don’t beat around the bush. Not one for subtlety, is he?

Chase: Answer the question, michael, has she?

Michael: I have no idea what you’re talking about and even if I did, I would never violate attorney-client privilege. However, if this was a preview of something you’ll be presenting at my client’s trial, I appreciate the heads up. Not that there should even be a trial.

Christine: Oh, wow. Finally, something we agree on. Diane could save everyone so much trouble if she just pled guilty. Is that something you and your client are ready to consider?

Jack: What do you mean don’t come back? There is no way I am going to abandon you.

Diane: You wouldn’t be abandoning me. You would be honoring my request.

Jack: I am not gonna let you do this, diane. I’m not gonna let you push away the people that love you.

Diane: I could be here a very long time.

Jack: No, no, you are innocent and kyle and I are going to help michael prove it.

Diane: There’s so much evidence against me.

Jack: It is manufactured evidence, planted by a criminal. We’re gonna prove that stark framed you and murdered phyllis himself. Look, it may take some time, but sooner or later–

Diane: Jack, stop it. I’m not getting out of here any time soon and you know it. I’ve been denied bail.

Jack: I know.

Diane: And a murder trial takes a really long time to prepare and my court date could be in ages.

Jack: However long it takes, I will be by your side. So will kyle. You can’t do this alone. Let us support you.

Diane: I love you for wanting to come to my rescue, but the only way I’m going to be able to survive this is if I just keep my head down and just forget about life outside this–

Jack: No, no. Absolutely not.

Diane: You know why? Because seeing your face and your eyes and hearing your voice, it– it doesn’t bring me comfort. It’s just a reminder of everything I’ve lost.

Jack: You have not lost me. I love you.

Diane: And I love you, but we need to do this my way.

Jack: Darling, listen to me–

Diane: Jack, please. If you love me, then you have to stay away. Having diabetes can raise a lot of questions.

Michael: My client is not pleading guilty to a murder she didn’t commit.

Christine: As her attorney, you’re duty-bound to advise her that it’s highly unlikely she’ll beat the charges given the weight of the evidence against her.

Michael: You are forgetting two critical factors. Diane has a brilliant attorney and she’s innocent.

Christine: Oh, well, of course, she is. But on the off chance that she’s not, if she would just cooperate with law enforcement–

Chance: We want stark.

Christine: I would consider recommending the judge impose a shorter sentence.

Michael: Not interested.

Christine: Really? Even if that means the difference between diane having the freedom to see her grandchild again or spending the rest of her life in prison?

Jack: Hey, it’s too soon to make any big decisions. It’s been a tough day. You know, being denied bail is a big deal and you need time to process that.

Diane: I– I think I’m dealing with this a little more realistically than you are.

Jack: By deciding to cut everyone out of your life? No, I mean that may sound fine today but tomorrow–

Diane: Tomorrow, what? What, jack? The sun’s going to come out and– and somehow things will be different than they are right now.

Jack: I am asking you to reconsider.

Diane: Listen to me. When I went on the run after faking my death, the only way I could survive was by shutting down. I– I had to clear my mind of any thoughts of my old life. No memories because if I allowed myself to, you know, to remember or to feel anything, it– it destroyed me.

Jack: This is a completely different situation.

Diane: No, it isn’T. Just like then, I am facing the very real possibility of spending the rest of my life away from everyone and everything that I care about. I know how this works. I know what I have to do.

Jack: Cut everyone out of your life? Try to forget everyone?

Diane: No, I’m not doing this because you and kyle and harrison aren’t the most important things in the world to me. I’m doing this because I love you too much to– to put you through what’s ahead. I mean, look, this is a terrible place. I don’t want you here. I don’t want kyle here and I certainly don’t want harrison here. What are we gonna do, huh? We’re just gonna sit around and try to act like everything’s normal when it’s not? I’m not going to put you through that. No, this is what I need to do to survive.

Kyle: What’s your idea?

Billy: We integrate jabot’s and marchetti’s ad campaign.

Kyle: No.

Billy: You’re not even gonna hear me out? We brand jabot and marchetti as a single fashion and beauty entity. Tessa has been a knockout as a spokesmodel for marchetti. She can work for both brands.

Kyle: No stands. Not gonna happen.

Billy: You’re not even gonna think about it?

Kyle: Don’t have to. Jabot offers a wide range of lines at various price points, each designed to appeal to a different demographic. The idea is that there is something different for everybody. In contrast, marchetti is exclusively a luxury brand. Two very different entities.

Billy: See, I don’t see a problem in that.

Kyle: Okay. Customers pay a premium for our quality, our exclusivity. Linking jabot and marchetti could dilute the brand’s reputation.

Billy: You’re missing the genius part. We tailor the ad campaigns to emphasize the connection between jabot and marchetti’s top-end products. It’s aspirational. It brings more customers to marchetti and it works better for both brands. What’s not to love about that?

Kyle: Where to begin, billy?

Billy: Wasn’t corporate synergy the whole reason jabot acquired a fashion brand in the first place? This idea does exactly that.

Kyle: Wow, you’ve really been here a couple of hours and you think you have the expertise to upend our entire advertising strategy.

Sharon: It means so much to me that aria is my first grandchild. Years ago, I was the young, biological mom who made the difficult choice of adoption. And here we are, full circle. And I’m just profoundly moved that mariah and tessa connected with aria’s birth mother, delphine, and they created a bond that honors their journey together. There’s so many different ways to be a family and aria is learning that already.

[ Laughing ] You better get used to big crowds because now, you have a lot of relatives and friends. You’ve got your aunt faith, who really wanted to be here, but she had an exam. And you have the best uncle in the world.

Noah: Free babysitting.

Mariah: We’re gonna take you up on that.

Sharon: I know that your path to motherhood wasn’t easy. I saw your joy and your determination and your discontentment, but I am so thrilled to see how happy you are now that your dreams of having a family have now come true with this sweet little baby girl. And I’m so looking forward to late nights, diaper changes, first steps and then, in the blink of an eye, aria will be all grown up. I’m really honored to have the three of you in my life. To family.

All: To family.

Mariah: To family. My celebrity colorist?

Abby: As someone who hasn’t been a mom much longer than the two of you, I have learned a few things. Like every single day, in 100 different ways, your child is gonna remind you of what’s important. And there will be good days and not-so-good days and days where you feel overwhelmed, but it’s okay because it’s all part of being a mom. And you will see the world in a completely different way and the joy that it will bring you will be like nothing you’ve ever felt before.

Tessa: We are pretty blissed out.

Mariah: I mean, we could use a little bit of sleep, but it’s no biggie.

Noah: Okay, my turn. Allie wishes she could be here but she got stuck in the lab, so this is from us.

Tessa: Thank you. Let’s see. Aw.

Mariah: Oh, noah, this is awesome. Free babysitting and a library. You guys are our favorite couple.

Tessa: Oh, I cannot wait to read these to her.

Noah: So, it’s mostly classics, but some of my favorites. I always remember my mom reading those books to me when I was a kid. I loved those moments. It kind of felt like we were on some kind of adventure, you know. Now that I think about it, I mean, our life kind of was an adventure. I had my wonderful mom there to guide me every step of the way.

Sharon: I didn’t tell him to say that.

Noah: I know how lucky I am. You know, most kids don’t get that. But, aria here, she hit the jackpot. She has two of the coolest, most amazing moms in the entire world.

Kyle: And what about the jaboutiques?

Diane: Whatever you wish for and hope will happen, there’s a very good chance that I’m going to be found guilty of murder. And I will be moved to some prison, god knows where. So, not seeing each other now, it’ll just make it easier for you to move on once I’m sentenced.

Jack: To move on? You honestly think I can just forget about you after everything we have been through to find our way back to each other? I have no intention of living my life without you.

Diane: Jack, it’s for the best.

Jack: You can’t do this.

[ Chair clattering ] This is selfish.

Diane: I’m not being selfish. I’m thinking about you and kyle.

Jack: Kyle? Kyle spent decades of his life thinking his mother was dead. Can you really imagine yourself putting him through that kind of pain again?

Diane: Well, if he spends any time with me now, then it will be that much harder for him once I move to some maximum security facility. Kyle needs to get used to the idea that I’m not going to be around.

Jack: And what about harrison? How is that little boy supposed to understand his deedee suddenly disappearing? She doesn’t write, she doesn’t call.

Diane: I want to go back to my cell. Guard!

Jack: Diane. Diane, wait. Wait.

[ Chair clattering ] (Vo) at the tidy cats innovation lab.

“The young and the restless” will continue. (Lucky) uh-oh the magic’s disappearing!

[ Knock on door ]

Billy: Come in.

Chelsea: Hey.

Billy: Excuse me, how did you get past security?

Chelsea: I bribed them with dumplings. I hope it’s okay I stopped by.

Billy: It’s okay and not only because I know that that bag is coming from yang chow’S.

Chelsea: How could you tell?

Billy: ‘Cause I can smell the slippery shrimp from here.

Chelsea: Ah. Well, I figured since it’s your first day back, you weren’t thinking about lunch. So, I thought about it for you. If you have time?

Billy: I will make time on one condition.

Chelsea: What’s that?

Billy: You join me.

Chance: Michael, we are looking for information about people connected to diane, like stark. Now I think there’s more to that story than what we’ve been told.

Michael: Well, I think you’re howling up the wrong tree, detective. There’s no current connection between the two of them. Diane wishes the man had never come to town.

Christine: So she says.

Michael: Have you taken a peek at the man’s rap sheet? I think it’s obvious that stark murdered phyllis on his own and then framed diane. She’s just another one of his victims.

Christine: You’re welcome to make that defense. I don’t think you’re gonna convince a jury based on the fact that diane had means, motive, and opportunity to kill phyllis.

Michael: Oh, that’s one way of looking at it. But I prefer to think that diane helping to put stark behind bars for money laundering will go a long way to persuading the jurors that the man was out for revenge.

Christine: Argh. Um, so we’re going to trial.

Michael: Yes. And you’re gonna lose. Because the D.A.’S office and the G.C.P.D. Have fallen for obviously planted evidence. So, stop pushing diane to confess to a murder she didn’t commit, and investigate the damn crime.

Chase: Excuse me. I’m gonna let you two duke this out.

[ Indistinct whispering ]

Abby: Aw, what a cute little puppy.

Sharon: It’s a bear.

[ Noah chuckles ]

Abby: It’s still really cute.

[ All laughing ]

Elena: Oh, look at that. A real designer original.

Noah: I’m just playing around.

Elena: The man is an artist.

Mariah: All right, guys, I can’t take it anymore, so I gotta– I gotta say something. I just wanted to thank you all and let you know how grateful we are that you guys are here with your love and your support for aria. But that love didn’t just start when we brought her home. You guys have been so supportive, throughout our entire journey. And you were there through the setbacks and the obstacles, and then through the ultrasound pictures and finally, to being able to bring her home. Uh, we didn’t tell you but there was a little bit of a scare, in the delivery. Everything’s okay. It was totally fine. But the nurse said that our daughter was really lucky to have us as mothers, but… I know tessa and I feel that it’s the other way around. Because this magical little girl… deserves everything in the entire world. And all tessa and I want to do is give her everything that she deserves.

Noah: Spoken like a true mama bear.

[ All laughing ]

Tessa: Well, uh, other mama bear would like to say something, too.

Mariah: Yeah.

Tessa: If that’s okay? Um, sharon mentioned the different ways to be a family–

[ Aria cooing ]

[ Tessa chuckles ] And, um, I, uh, never had much luck with my biological family, except for my sister, crystal. I spent years on my own. I never trusted anyone. I never even tried to connect. And then I moved to genoa city and met my family. And each one of you is a member. Well, mariah and I have just dreamed about this moment and this baby for so long, I cannot think of a better way to celebrate it than with our family. You know, we made a deliberate choice to be aria’s moms, but I– I feel on some cosmic level that our daughter chose us. Mm…

[ Mariah giggling ]

[ Aria crying ]

Abby: Hi.

Kyle: Hi. I didn’t realize there was a private event. I’ll leave.

Abby: No, no, no, I’m sorry, I was gonna invite you. I just didn’t think you’d want to come with everything going on.

Kyle: Well, I’m thrilled for mariah and tessa, but I’ll find someplace else to get lunch.

Mariah: Hey, you. You are not getting out of here without talking to me. Hi.

Chelsea: So, first day back. Highlights, insights.

Billy: Hmm. Well, I already managed to get into an argument, but I kept my cool and I handled it peacefully. So, I think that’s progress.

Chelsea: Excellent.

Billy: Yeah.

Chelsea: And it seems you’re enjoying the work.

Billy: I am. Yeah, very much so. You know, it’s not just about pushing paper and numbers and figures. I– I really believe that I can make a difference here.

Chelsea: Well, look at you. It seems like you landed in the– a satisfying career you were always hoping for.

Billy: Yeah, right here in my own backyard.

Chelsea: Mm-hmm.

Billy: How about you? How’s the video game coming?

Chelsea: I’m loving it. I’m creating a world, you know, a community I feel I can– I can really make a difference in. I’ve never been so excited about a project. Uh, the only problem is we’re in a bit of a holding pattern right now, but…

Billy: Why is that?

Chelsea: Well, phyllis’s death, you know. Daniel’s still grieving so I don’t feel comfortable approaching him about work stuff right now.

Billy: No, that’s true. It’s very sensitive of you. How does that make you feel?

Chelsea: How does that make me feel? Look at you with the therapy speech.

Billy: You’re right. This is not a counseling session. This is lunch.

Chelsea: No, that’s okay. I will tell you exactly how I feel. Um, I’m feeling a little impatient, to be honest with you.

Billy: Okay.

Chelsea: I wish things were moving forward more quickly, but I also realize it’s just a bump in the road. I can deal. There’s no reason to freak out. Everything will come together. And I truly have confidence that the project will be all the better for it in the end.

Billy: So–

Chelsea: Mature, right?

Billy: And wise.

[ Chelsea laughs softly ] I am in awe of how strong you have become.

Chelsea: Well, I got you, mr. C.E.O.

[ Billy chuckles softly ]

[ Chelsea sighs ] I mean, look at us, billy, we really did it. We helped each other through some rough times and now we’re finally getting our lives together.

Tessa: I’m so glad you could make it.

Elena: Aw, I wouldn’t have missed it. Remember when you had all of those questions about being a mother?

Tessa: Oof.

Elena: And now you and mariah are the experts of this baby girl and you always will be.

Tessa: Well, thank you for the vote of confidence. But between us, I might have accidentally woken aria up to see if she was breathing, and it might have happened more than once.

Elena: Well, you’re certainly not the first new parents to have done that. And it’s funny, infants always seem so fragile, but we both know that aria is a fighter.

[ Tessa sighs ]

Mariah: I know we’re not exactly huggers, but… kyle, I’m so sorry about your mom.

Kyle: I got your messages.

Mariah: All of them?

Kyle: Yeah, I should have called back. I just haven’t been in the space to.

Mariah: No, you’re– you’re totally fine. You’ve been going through hell.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Kyle: This looks like fun. I’m excited for you and tessa. I can’t wait to meet the newest member of your family.

Mariah: Well, the, uh– the newest member of our family is gonna be starting off her life in style, thanks to you and summer and all of the baby clothes that you guys sent us in portland. I don’t think we’re gonna have to buy aria clothes for a year.

Kyle: I’m glad you like them.

Mariah: Hey, I just– I want you to know that I’m here if you need anything. You know that, right? And summer, too. I– I promise to be a good friend to her. I– I just can’t imagine what she’s going through. Thank god she has you.

Michael: Whatever happened to that kind, compassionate christine who was the champion of the underdog?

Christine: She represents the people of genoa city, which means ensuring that wealthy, well-connected murderers don’t get off on ridiculous plea deals.

Michael: Ooh. Returning to the D.A.’S office has brought out that judgy, self-righteous streak of yours. Between you and me, didn’t miss it.

Christine: Oh, come on. You had a moral compass when you were D.A. Now you just sell off to the highest bidder. I mean, helping victor with some shady deals is one thing, but representing a killer like diane is another.

Michael: Need I remind you that every person accused of a crime is entitled to a vigorous defense? And proving someone’s innocence, that’s pretty noble, in my opinion.

Christine: Mm. Yeah, especially when you’re getting paid very well for it. I think we’re done here. Oh. Just know my door is always open whenever diane’s ready to confess.

Michael: Hmm. Wouldn’t that solve all your problems? See you in court.

Jack: We need to get diane another bail hearing, now! I used to pre-rinse dishes cause my old detergent

[ All giggling and chatting ]

Kyle: Summer’s really struggling, shutting down, practically hiding in her room. And I know she needs space to grieve, but, mariah, this just seems off.

Mariah: Have you tried talking to her?

Kyle: I want to. But it’s kind of hard when she thinks my mom killed hers.

Mariah: Yeah, that’s not complicated at all.

Kyle: And I tried making summer understand that it’s absurd, but she’s only seeing what she wants to right now. I have to prove my mother isn’t guilty. If I don’t, I don’t know how my marriage survives.

Mariah: Well, the one thing that I can say about summer for sure is she is tough, as tough as they come. And she loves you just as much as you love her. So, you guys are gonna be fine. You’re gonna get through this.

Kyle: I appreciate you saying that. But I’ve taken up enough of your time. You need to get back to the onesies.

Mariah: Oh, no, no, no, please stay. I promise you, one goofy little baby shower game, it’s gonna crack that smile wide open.

Kyle: I would only bring down the mood, but congrats on your baby girl. What a wonderful life she has ahead of her.

[ All laughing and chattering ]

Christine: Jack, I warned you about this and I’m sorry, but the judge determined diane was too much of a flight risk to be granted bail.

Michael: The judge made that decision based on your argument at the arraignment.

Christine: And I stand by it. We know diane’s history.

Jack: That is ancient history! I was just with diane. She is not doing well.

Christine: Well, she’s in jail. No one does well there.

Jack: She’s innocent, christine. She doesn’t belong behind bars. Is there any way we can get to this judge? Get her to change her mind? Convince her to grant diane bail?

Michael: I’ll do my best, jack, but the facts haven’t changed. Therefore, it’s highly unlikely the judge will change her decision.

Jack: So what? We do nothing? No, that is not an option. You find this judge, you tell her I will personally pay for whatever bail is set. A million, five, ten, it does not matter. Diane will wear an ankle monitor. They can post an officer to watch her 24/7. I’ll pay the salary. Get something done now, michael. Diane has to come home.

Next week on “the young and the restless.”

Victoria: I’m asking if you’d like to join me on a business trip. There’s no– nothing left for me. There’s no place for me here.

Ashley: There might be a place for you. Why don’t you move in with me?

Summer: Is this for real? Mom, are you real?

Phyllis: I’m real.

Devon: Esther. Hey.

Esther: Oh, devon.

Devon: Hey.

Esther: It’s so great to have you back.

Devon: Oh, thank you. It’s good to be back.

Esther: You know, for a while, I was really worried. I wasn’t sure that things would work out.

Devon: It took a little time but things did and here I am.

Esther: Well, yes, you are. Mrs. C. Would be so happy. Family meant everything to her.

Lily: I agree. Nothing is more important. And this is exactly where my brother belongs. Hi.

Devon: How you doing?

Lucy: Dad, we have tons of time.

Daniel: Yeah, don’t I wish.

Lucy: My flight doesn’t leave until about noon.

Daniel: Sure, but it’s an international flight. So, gotta make sure that you’re there and checked in two hours prior.

Lucy: Dad.

Daniel: Yeah.

Lucy: You worry too much.

Daniel: Portugal is, um– it’s a long way away. So, I appreciate you making the trip.

Lucy: I loved phyllis. I had to come, and plus, I knew you needed me. Nothing is more important than that.

Daniel: Well, you being at the memorial service really helped. So, thank you.

Lucy: You’re still wearing it.

Daniel: Hmm.

Lucy: The bracelet I gave you.

Daniel: Yeah, I barely take it off.

Lucy: The last time I was here, you said that fidgeting with it like that was a sign that I was uncomfortable. And now you’re doing the same thing. Dad, what’s going on? Do I need to stay longer to make sure you’ll be okay?

[ Keyboard clacking ]

Victor: There you are, my baby. I knew I’d find you here.

Nikki: Well, it’s– it’s almost quitting time in bahrain and I promised our logistics manager that I would have this to them by end of day. Hold on.

[ Keyboard clacking ] Done.

Victor: Done. Just like that.

Nikki: Good morning, darling.

Victor: Mm… hmm. You were gone so early this morning.

Nikki: I know, I’m sorry I missed you. Did you want to talk to me about something?

Victor: [ Sighs] Yeah. Seems that sally spectra’s pregnant with adam’s child. While she’s having an affair with our other son. Did you know about this?

Adam: Aw, you shouldn’t have. I didn’t get you anything.

Sharon: I love that every time you see a gift you just assume it’s for you.

Adam: Uh, I’m sure if you look hard enough in your psychology books, that’s probably a symptom of some disorder.

Sharon: I don’t doubt that.

Adam: So, uh, who’s the gift for?

Adam: Yeah, you and the new moms, you were glowing when they brought the baby in. She’s a lucky little girl.

Sharon: Oh, that’s sweet. Thank you.

Adam: Mm-hmm. And since we’re on the subject, I have some very exciting baby news of my own.

Sally: How’d you sleep?

Nick: Not great.

Sally: Yeah, it’s been a rough week. Any chance you’re also upset about today? The ultrasound and me inviting adam to join us?

Nick: Uh, as far as I’m concerned–

Sally: Look, I– I know you said you needed some time to, you know, figure out how you feel. It’s not what you want. I– I get it. You’re afraid that adam is working some angle and he’s trying to edge you out of the picture. But nick, I promise you that is not what’s happening. I just really hope on top of everything else that this hasn’t gotten to be too much for you. Tide is busting laundry’s biggest myth…

Nick: I’m okay with adam coming to the appointment.

Sally: Really?

Nick: Yeah, really. He is the father of that little boy or little girl. Nobody is pretending like that isn’t happening.

Sally: True.

Nick: I told you I will follow your lead when it comes to this baby. And I know I’m gonna have to share him or her with adam when it comes. But I want to make sure we’re all on the same page, that I will not be sharing you.

Sally: This baby may be adam’s, but I am all yours.

Nick: Good. How long ’til your appointment?

Sally: Um, it’s not ’til this afternoon, plenty of time. Is there any special reason why you’re asking? Is there something that you would like to do in the meantime?

Nick: Don’t you tempt me.

Sally: Oh, why not?

Nick: [ Sighs ] Very interested in your offer, but I really need to run by the office and see vic. And I will meet up with you and adam at the coffeehouse.

Sally: All right. Works for me.

Nick: Okay.

[ Sally laughs softly ]

Sharon: Adam, look at you, you’re beaming. What’s your big news?

Adam: Well, it’s not news yet, but it will be by this afternoon.

Sharon: Okay, well, don’t keep me in suspense. What is it?

Adam: Today is the day that sally and I find out if our baby’s a boy or a girl.

Sharon: Oh, wow. I am so excited for you. I know what a big day that is.

Adam: Thank you. Thank you.

Sharon: So, um, when’s the appointment?

Adam: Uh, it’s a couple hours from now. I’m, uh, meeting nick and sally here before we head to the ultrasound.

Sharon: Nick and sally? The three of you?

Adam: That’s right.

Sharon: Wow. Aren’t you the modern family? So, no more resentment?

Adam: [ Chuckles] Not on my part. And nick is being open-minded.

Sharon: I’m glad to hear it.

Adam: It’s not ideal. We’re all doing the best we can. Even nick, which I have to say surprises me, in a good way.

Sharon: Well, that’s the right attitude to have, so good for you.

Adam: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. No, I’ve been thinking about what connor means to me and after seeing mariah and tessa with their newborn, it’s a great reminder that children are something to be grateful for. And it doesn’t matter what the circumstances are and how they were brought into your lives. They’re not responsible for those circumstances. They deserve to come into this world with a clean slate and receive unconditional love.

Nikki: Summer told me about sally’s pregnancy in confidence and I didn’t want to violate her trust. And I also knew that you wouldn’t take this news well.

Victor: Of course, I wouldn’T. For heaven’s sake, sweetheart. This whole thing is an outrage.

Nikki: And the third reason I didn’t say anything is because the first trimester of pregnancy is stressful enough without having victor newman on your case.

Victor: Are you defending this woman?

Nikki: No, I am not defending her. I am protecting her child. I mean, lord knows I don’t agree with most of the choices sally makes, but that doesn’t negate the fact that her child will be a newman.

Daniel: Ah, look at you turning the tables on your old man. Way to go.

Lucy: Way to sidestep the question.

Daniel: [ Scoffs] Can you ever let me get away with something? Just once?

Lucy: Have you ever let me get away with anything?

Daniel: Okay. You can’t stay. But yes, you are right, I am having a tough time. It’s like my whole life, even when I moved away, mom was just always a phone call away, and, um, well, now she’s not. So, I’m just trying to, you know, figure out my way through this world that she’s not a part of.

Lucy: I’m so sorry, dad.

Daniel: Look, I’m gonna– I’m gonna get through this, okay? It’s just weird. You know, growing up you see other people lose their parents, but… and you figure for yourself it’s gonna be decades away. I thought I had all those years left with her. Now that’s just gone. The virus that causes shingles is sleeping…

Lily: Okay. So, we’re agreed that we each will head up our own divisions and have autonomy within them.

Devon: Yes. And we will be both open to each other’s advice as well as jill’s, right?

Lily: Yes, of course. But I do think that we each should have final say within our own division.

Devon: I think so, too. It sounds good so far.

Lily: Good.

Devon: When you talk about, though, us maintaining boundaries, I agree on a professional level, but I don’t want you to stop talking to me like we’re family when we’re here, or sharing your thoughts with me. ‘Cause I always need you to do that.

Lily: No, of course. You know I have your back and I know that you have mine. You know, and– and before, I did feel beholden to jill because she’s the head of board of directors. But I promise you, if I feel like what you’re saying is correct, then I will definitely have your back.

Devon: And what about when you think that what I’m saying is wrong?

Lily: [ Laughs ] Then I will respectfully tell you what a terrible idea it is.

Devon: Okay. Well, it’s good to know that we’re on the same page, then.

Lily: I’m just so happy you’re back. I missed you. And it has been a rough few months, but here we are.

[ Both chuckling ] So, let’s get to work.

Lucy: I haven’t given much thought to what it would be like if you, or mom… if I didn’t have you in my world anymore. And, um… now you’re going through that. How do you handle it?

Daniel: I’ll be okay.

Lucy: Dad, I know you. Sometimes you just forget and you don’t take care of yourself.

Daniel: I promise, I will this time. There’s no way I’m gonna spiral back to that place that I was stuck in. And– and– I have this as a reminder that I have a terrific daughter who loves me and needs me to be okay for her.

Lucy: It’s good to know you’ll be thinking of me, but dad… we both know you need more than just me and your life.

Sharon: I’m really proud of you, adam. You know, this is a delicate situation and you’re handling it with grace.

Adam: Well, thank you. It means a lot. But it’s still early. I could turn this whole thing to an epic disaster by dinner time.

Sharon: That’s true. But I don’t think you will. It feels like you’re making all the right decisions, for the right reasons.

Adam: Hmm. Well, it’s not like I was given much of a choice.

Sharon: True. Does that mean that you’ve given up your feelings for sally?

Adam: Honestly? No, I– I haven’T. I still love sally and I wish that we could be a family.

Sharon: Understandable.

Adam: But those feelings are separate from this kid that is on the way.

Sharon: Well, I have seen you with connor and you are a really wonderful father to him. So, I’m sure when this baby gets here you will be just as great to him– or her.

Adam: That’s the plan. But I have to remember this is sally’s first child. I’ve been a parent for a while. She has no idea what to expect.

Sharon: Yeah, the experience you get from raising the first one–

Adam: Right, it’s huge.

Sharon: There’s no substitute.

Adam: So, my focus is on sally and it’s on helping her prepare for these first few weeks and accepting whatever place I have in that until the birth. And from that point, I’ll be a 50/50 parent.

Sharon: Amen

Adam: Sally may think she doesn’t need me, may not want me, but this baby is gonna get all the love that I have to give.

Sharon: So, what are you hoping for? Girl or boy?

Adam: I’ll tell you later, uh, sally’s here.

Sharon: Oh, okay, have fun.

Adam: Mm-hmm.

[ Clears throat ]

Sally: I guess, uh, we both beat nick here, huh?

Adam: Uh-huh.

For bathroom odors that linger.

Daniel: You don’t have to worry about me, lucy.

Lucy: You’re my dad. I’m always gonna worry about you. You just– you need other people close by you that you can trust and depend on. Friends, like lily.

Daniel: Hmm. You wouldn’t happen to be trying to play matchmaker, would you? Because you are not that subtle.

Lucy: Subtlety is for cowards.

Daniel: Mm. You and lily are great together, don’t you think?

Daniel: Yeah, we’re great friends. Is that okay?

Lucy: You used to be more, though.

Daniel: Yes, once upon a time, we used to be more. But, you know, things are different when you grow up. Your friends, they– they can move away, you can drift apart. Sometimes it’s not worth really going out on a limb and trying to force something or make something more of a relationship when it’s not there. Because, you know, if you blow it, you run the risk of losing that person forever.

Lucy: I get it. It’s very ross and rachel. And if that’s the real reason that you’re holding back, then I get it.

Daniel: Oh, the real reason.

Lucy: Look, I’m not saying you need to fall madly in love with lily, or anyone else. I just… you and mom aren’t together anymore and I go to school in europe. And phyllis is– is gone, too. I just hate the thought of you being alone.

Daniel: I promise, honestly, I’m not gonna be alone. I– I have plenty of other friends besides lily, and I have, you know, acquaintances.

Lucy: Okay. Just don’t lock out the people you’re close to who already are there for you. Because pushing away people like that, it’s just weird. And it’s exactly how you blow things with a woman like lily. By not seeing and appreciating what’s right in front of your face.

Sally: [ Sighs ] I mean, where could nick be? There’s no way he’d miss this, at least not willingly.

Sharon: Um, it’s mariah.

Adam: Uh, take it, we’ll be fine.

Sharon: Hey, sweetie, what’s going on?

Adam: I’m sure that nick will be here any minute.

Sally: Yeah. I mean, the last time, you know, I saw him, he was on his way to newman. Maybe he got hung up or something. I don’t know.

Adam: Well, it’s– it’s not a problem. If nick got held up, we can just meet him at the doctor’s appointment, but we won’t start without him, okay? Just try to relax. Think positive thoughts. Everything is gonna work out how it’s meant to.

Nikki: All right. All right. Why don’t we all take a deep breath before something is said that cannot be unsaid.

Nick: As I have told you many, many times before, my personal life is none of your concern.

Victor: Son, it is my concern. For heaven’s sake, don’t you see what’s happening? That woman is playing odds with both my sons. It’s embarrassing. She can’t hold on to adam, so she latches on to you. Making fun of both of you.

Nick: You have no idea what you’re talking about and I understand that isn’t gonna make you stop.

Victor: Doesn’t this bother you at all? Don’t you realize what this looks like to people?

“The young and the restless” will continue.

Devon: You know, I did see some of what you were dealing with from the sidelines and I’m sorry that I wasn’t there to support you through it.

Lily: No, it’s fine. I mean, we were barely speaking.

Devon: Yeah, I know, but I still wish things played out differently.

Lily: I am just glad you’re back and that we’re okay again.

Devon: Me too. I also noticed though, that when, uh– after you and billy split and we were going through everything, that daniel stepped in as a really big support for you. I’m very grateful to him for that. So, I’ll let him know next time I see him.

Lily: Please do. I’m sure some kindness can go a long way for him right now.

Devon: How is he dealing with his mom’s passing?

Lily: I mean, he’s struggling, you know, obviously. And unfortunately, it’s going to get worse before it gets better. And I think if anyone knows that–

Devon: It’s you and me.

Lily: Yeah, I’m pretty worried about him right now.

Victor: It’s bad enough that you and your sister, victoria, have done everything in your power to keep him out of the family business. Now, you’re showing callous disregard for your brother.

Nick: First, I had nothing to do with victoria blocking the acquisition of mccall unlimited. I was okay with us buying it so that adam could go off and run it on his own.

Victor: Oh, yeah. I bet. Out of sight, out of mind.

Nick: Second, I’m not doing anything to prevent adam from raising his kid. Neither is sally, far from it.

Victor: You’re standing in their way to raise that child as a family.

Nikki: So you’re not opposed to adam being involved with the chaotic, destructive person?

Victor: Of course, I am. I don’t approve of any of this dumb nonsense. Son, you just need to bow out of all of this for everyone’s sake, especially for your own.

Nick: You know, you are conveniently forgetting that adam is not a child. He’s a grown man. He’s made his own choices. He’s gonna have to live with the repercussions. He pushed sally away before sally or anyone else knew about the pregnancy. He has blown up his own family multiple times and I don’t think he’s some hapless victim that I need to coddle just because there’s a baby on the way.

Victor: I’m not talking to adam now, I’m talking to you. How the hell long do you intend to carry on like this? What do you want to raise that child and marry her and raise him as your family? It’s nuts. That choice should be adam’s, not yours.

Adam: Keep drinking all this tea, we’re gonna have to name our son, earl gray.

Sally: Or our daughter, chamomile.

Adam: Uh, I don’t know about that.

Sally: Okay, you do better.

Adam: A girl’s name? Mm… I’d rather not.

Sally: How come?

Adam: I have ideas, of course, but look, we have time. We should name our– our little one together. Our child’s name is the start of his or her own journey, their own legacy.

Sally: I like that thought. Of course, newman will be a part of that legacy.

Adam: The name definitely comes with its own history. But hopefully, the baby will find a new way to breathe life into it.

Daniel: When did you get so wise?

Lucy: I think it’s genetic. Probably grandpa. I think it skipped a generation though.

Daniel: Oh, ha ha ha. That’s very funny. I should get you to the airport so you don’t miss your flight.

Lucy: I really wouldn’t mind another day with you.

Daniel: Your mother would kill me.

Lucy: I was hoping you’d forget about that.

Daniel: I’m not gonna forget about that, come on. Oh, you’re probably too old to hold your old man’s hand, huh?

Lucy: Seriously, dad?

Daniel: Come on.

Lucy: Let’s go.

Daniel: Yeah, let’s go. After you. Mom. Can we get a puppy, mom?

[ Sally sighing ]

Sally: So, I overheard the tail end of your conversation earlier.

Adam: Oh.

Sally: With sharon.

Adam: Right. Uh, which gender I was hoping for?

Sally: Mm-hmm. Yeah, I know we’ve joked a lot about the fact that, you know, you only have boys, but do you actually have a preference?

Adam: Mm, not really.

Sally: Seriously?

Adam: I imagine if we have a daughter, she will be as smart as her mother and I will be heavily outnumbered.

Sally: And if it’s a boy?

Adam: He or she will be welcomed into this world with just boundless love.

Sally: Man, when I wasn’t sure which one of you was the father, I panicked. I had a lot of sleepless nights. It turns out I did not need to worry because whether the father was you or nick, this child was destined to be loved.

Adam: That’s something you never have to worry about. How much I love this kid.

Nick: Adam, sally, and I are managing the situation just fine. We don’t need your interference.

Nikki: Your father and I have strong opinions where sally is concerned.

Nick: Mom, I love you, but no offense, you gotta butt out of this.

Victor: What do you mean no offense? I am offended. With the lack of respect, you show me and your brother.

Nick: When? When did I do that?

Victor: Yesterday in that damn cafe. I saw what happened. You saw adam and sally sort of flirting with each other, getting kind of close. What did you do? You inserted yourself right between them, to show your dominance, right?

Nick: That is not what happened.

Victor: Oh, really?

Nick: No, it’s not. But I just reminded you why I was justified in doing that. If you give adam one inch…

Victor: That’s just one more way of how you’re trying to thwart him. I’ve been trying for years to integrate that boy into our family. You and your sister have done nothing but throw one obstacle after another in his way. I am sick and tired of your lack of loyalty to him and to me.

[ Nick exhaling ]

Nick: You know, I came here to see vic. She’s obviously not around, so I’m out of here. Leave sally alone. She doesn’t deserve this.

[ Daniel exhaling ]

[ Daniel sighing ]

[ Daniel sighing ]

[ Knock on door ]

Lily: Hi.

Daniel: I thought you had work?

Lily: I do, but, you know, the boss and I we’re pretty close so I can take a break. Are you okay? I used to pre-rinse dishes cause my old detergent

Devon: Hey, esther, is lily available? I want to see if she wants to get lunch.

Esther: Oh, you just missed her. She had to step out for a bit.

Devon: Okay. I’m gonna go to the food court then. Can I bring you back anything?

Esther: Oh, that’s really sweet. But no, I’m brown bagging it today.

Devon: Oh, that’s smart. I’ll be back in probably like an hour.

Esther: Okay. Oh, devon, um– before lily came in earlier, I started to talk about the importance of family.

Devon: Oh, yeah. Yeah. Did you want to finish your thought?

Esther: Well, when mrs. C. Discovered that you were her grandson, it rocked her world. And you had a lot going on back then and you weren’t the least bit interested in letting her into your life.

Devon: I know. I was young and stupid.

Esther: But she was determined to connect with you, to communicate. It mattered a lot to her. She was constantly trying to think of ways to accomplish that. And then it hit her. Mrs. C. Knew exactly what she needed to do.

Devon: I think I know what you’re talking about. She learned sign language so she could talk to me and it blew me away the first time she did it.

Esther: Yeah, she went the extra mile, so the two of you could bond and grow a relationship because that’s what families do. They go out of their way for each other. Like you and lily have, to find a way in your hearts to set aside your differences to make chancellor-winters whole again. Which is my long-winded way of saying, welcome home, devon. I know that mrs. C. And neil are looking down right now and they’re smiling.

Devon: Thank you. Thank you. I love you.

Esther: Oh, I love you. Oh, so glad you’re back.

Lily: Did you and lucy get to have breakfast before you took her to the airport?

Daniel: Yeah. I hate seeing her go. Without her and my dad here, it’s just– I don’t think I’ve ever felt this alone. And that’s scary, you know. But I promised lucy that I would take care of myself. So, I’m gonna have to find a way through it.

[ Daniel sighing ]

Lily: She sent me a text before she took off.

Daniel: Oh, great, that’s–

Lily: Sweet?

Daniel: No, it’s embarrassing.

Lily: Embarrassing, why?

Daniel: My kid shouldn’t feel like she has to look out for me like that.

Lily: Daniel, it’s called love. She wants you to know that you are loved and you’re not alone. You’re not alone.

Nikki: Victor, you are going to have to find a way to accept this.

Victor: This is all madness, sweetheart. This woman could be the destruction of our family.

Nikki: Look, I don’t like her any more than you do, but if we’re going to prevail, we have to approach this strategically.

Victor: How so?

Nikki: Those three are a powder keg. I don’t know how they’re going to avoid setting it off. But I do know this. If you continue to criticize, you will become the common enemy. It will be the three of them against you.

Victor: I don’t give a damn.

Nikki: You’re just going to have to let them figure it out without any input because listen to me, if they band together, they could block your access to the child. No matter how we feel about sally, her baby is going to be your grandchild and I know it would kill you to not be a part of its life. Oh, darling.

[ Sally sighing ]

Sally: All right. Um, he’s not here, so we should just, go.

Adam: Are you sure?

Sally: Yeah, I’ll just text him and ask him to meet us there.

Adam: Okay. All right, let’s do this.

Nick: Hey, I’m here. Hey, sharon.

Sharon: Hey, nick.

Sally: Thank goodness.

Nick: Sorry to cut it so close. You ready to go?

Sally: Yeah.

Adam: You just made it. That’s great.

Nick: Yep. I’ll take it from here. Let’s go. We’ll meet you at the appointment.

Adam: Yeah.

Tucker: Hi.

Ashley: Hi. A little early in the day for this?

Tucker: Oh, it’s never too early for champagne. I thought you could use a break from all things abbott right now.

Ashley: Oh. Very thoughtful of you.

Tucker: But not entirely selfless. I… I couldn’t wait any longer to see you.

Ashley: So this is good news, right, about devon and mccall unlimited?

Victoria: Oh.

[Sighs]

[Knock on door]

Audra: Is this a bad time?

Nate: [Sighs heavily]

Elena: I thought you were working.

Nate: I didn’t want to wake you since you got called back to the hospital late last night. I must have been at the gym when you got up.

Elena: So you don’t have to go back to the office?

Nate: I’m taking the day off. I thought we could spend some time together.

Elena: [Scoffs] Okay. But first… I’d like to talk about what you were talking about last night with nick. Why, considering everything he’s going through right now, did he feel compelled to confront you? And why does he think you’re consumed with power? And are you finally ready to tell me what’s actually going on?

Mariah: Hi, mom.

Sharon: Well, hey. What are you doing here?

Mariah: There’s the maternal warmth I was looking for?

Sharon: No, i am being maternal. It was just A…reflex because I know that you hate leaving tessa and the baby at home, and who could blame you? But I’m always glad to see you.

Mariah: Well, I am going to be heading home soon, but I just wanted to come here, pick up some treats and some much needed coffee on my way back from jabot.

Abby: I couldn’t agree more.

Mariah: Hi!

Abby: Hi! Oh.

Mariah: My gosh.

Abby: Welcome home. How are you and tessa doing?

Mariah: Uh, we are exhausted, but deliriously happy.

Abby: Well, I remember the feeling. When can I meet little aria? If you ever want to sneak in a nap, I can totally babysit.

Mariah: I’m going to take you up on that. Uh, how are you? I know we haven’t spoken since the divorce finalized.

Abby: Uh, I’m–I’m okay. You know, it can be a little complicated, but it’s not all bad, which probably sounds terrible under the circumstances.

Mariah: If you and chance weren’t happy, I… I totally understand, you know? And eventually, you’ll both move on with your lives.

Abby: About that, um… I have some news, and I wanted you to hear it from me directly. It’s something I didn’t see coming until it happened.

Ashley: So this feels very decadent, but what the hell? We’re celebrating, right?

Tucker: Yeah.

Ashley: Cheers.

Tucker: Cheers. Mm. I have orange juice if you’d prefer.

Ashley: Would you please just tell me what happened when devon finally came around? Take it slow. Tell me the story.

Tucker: Sadly, that’s one thing I can’t offer you. Devon has decided to go back to chancellor-winters rather than take over mccall.

Ashley: Well, that’S… that’s very disappointing.

Tucker: I’m sorry. Sorry that I couldn’t pull off the one task you gave me.

Ashley: Why are we drinking champagne? I mean…

Tucker: I’m hoping we can toast to us. I’m appealing to your better angels, ashley. I haven’t given up on becoming the man that you want and deserve.

Ashley: Well, you’re certainly taking your defeat in stride.

Tucker: Hmm. Actually, I was really stung by devon’s rejection. Actually, no, not stung. I was hurt because it’s been my dream to have my son take over my company and continue my legacy. But while I am disappointed for myself, I’m very happy for devon and lily, because they have this really strong bond that’s rare and to be cherished.

Ashley: You’re so upbeat and magnanimous about the whole thing.

Tucker: And don’t be so surprised. I am capable of both those things. And I think I have reason to be positive ’cause I give myself a little credit for devon’s current happiness.

Ashley: Well, that’s a shock. You give yourself credit? Why is that?

Tucker: For providing him an alternative. Because when I laid out the possibility that he might sever ties with chancellor-winters and lily to take over mccall, I’d like to think that inspired lily to make peace. So in a way, I did devon a service, and I’m proud of that. And I hope you can be proud of me, too.

Victoria: Nate and I went over your langston report, and we have decided to make an offer to buy the company.

Audra: That’s great news.

Victoria: I have some notes, and nate will email you the details, if he hasn’t already.

Audra: Uh, this is the first I’m hearing about it. Uh, when did you two exactly decide to greenlight the deal?

Victoria: Yesterday.

Audra: Oh.

Victoria: You know, uh…

[Sighs] Whenever I have a meeting with the ceo of newman media, the coo doesn’t necessarily have to be there, right?

Audra: Understood. I just like to stay on top of things, like I imagine you do.

Victoria: You’ve made that abundantly clear. You’re always going above and beyond, aren’t you?

Audra: [Chuckles] Is–is that a compliment or a criticism? Look, I hope I didn’t offend you during our last meeting when I talked about my own ambitions.

Victoria: I don’t offend easily.

Audra: Well, if there’s any question, let me go on the record now. I am absolutely a team player.

Victoria: That’s good. Very good. I respect ambition, but I respect loyalty even more.

Audra: I plan to emulate nate in that regard.

Victoria: Meaning?

Audra: Oh, you know, just that nate’s really putting in the hours and working day and night to satisfy you. There’s no doubt where his loyalty lies.

Nate: I wasn’t trying to avoid you or your questions last night. You got called into that emergency at the hospital. There wasn’t much time for talking.

Elena: Okay. Well, we’re both here now, so why is nick upset with you?

Nate: Truth is, he’s never been thrilled that I took the job to run newman media.

Elena: Because victoria got rid of sally against his wishes?

Nate: And due to the way I left chancellor-winters. He felt like I sold out my family for a better job at newman.

Elena: Oh. Didn’t realize you guys had such a frank conversation about it. Although I can see why he might have felt that way.

Nate: Because you felt the same way.

Elena: Luckily, we were able to get through it.

Nate: And I was hoping, uh, nick and I could as well. I told him I would try my best to gain his trust, you know, work hard to prove myself to him. But I guess that second chance isn’t going to happen now.

Elena: Why? What happened yesterday?

Nate: [Sighs] Nick’s emotions are running hot because of phyllis’ death, and he might have heard something at newman that set him off.

Elena: Like what?

Nate: I’m not exactly sure, but victoria loops me in on things more often than nick would like, and that doesn’t sit well with him.

Elena: So you’re saying your access to victoria is causing more problems between you?

Nate: Yeah, and there’s nothing I could do about it. I have to take my cues from my boss.

Elena: Right. So let’s talk about you and victoria. There are times, I wonder…

Abby: Devon asked me to move in with him. And after some thought, dom and I moved into his penthouse yesterday.

Mariah: Wow. [Laughs] Uh…yeah, that…that is, uh… that’s big news. Sorry, I just need a minute to kind of wrap my head around that.

Abby: Yeah, that’s been most people’s reaction. Sharon, you don’t seem surprised.

Sharon: Oh. Uh… well, chance mentioned it.

Abby: Right. Yeah. I’m–I know the two of you have become friends. Um… I’m really happy that he has someone to talk to. He doesn’t want to discuss things with me recently, which I don’t blame him for, so…

Mariah: Abby, you know that I love you and devon and chance. I’m in all of your corners. I just didn’t know that you and devon were so serious already. Just, it does seem a little fast.

Abby: I totally get that. Yes, it does seem fast, but… I don’t know. It… it just feels right. After talking to chance, of course, and he didn’t object. I know this can’t be easy for him, but he has been very mature, and he has handled things very civilly.

Mariah: Well, it’s probably been difficult for him, but I’m sure he’s just going to continue to do what’s best for dom.

Abby: I have no doubt about that. Our child comes first.

Mariah: I didn’t see that as a kid myself, but I absolutely want to make that true for my daughter. And my heart could burst.

Sharon: Welcome to the club.

Abby: [Laughs]

Elena: I have concerns about your dynamic with victoria. She has a deep-seated need for power, and you have a need to prove yourself to her.

Nate: Only because I want to be good at my job.

Elena: Obviously, I’m not at newman every day, but nick is. And seeing him confront you the way that he did did not make me feel any better about whatever’s going on at that office.

Nate: Look, I love my job. I love the opportunities it represents, but I’m not obsessed with power. I’m just trying to do what I can to grow newman media and show that I deserve to be in that ceo seat.

Elena: I never said you shouldn’t love your job. That is exactly how I feel about mine.

Nate: But I realize I’ve been a bit of a workaholic lately, and that’s taken a toll on us. When you’re at the hospital, you have a shift. There’s a reason why you clock out– because it can be all-consuming. The business world is the same way, but there’s no one else to take over when I get off. And things come up around the clock. So… lines could get blurred. But I should have set some limits. Listen, you are my top priority. I want you to know that. Feel it. That’s why I took today off, because I want to work on making things right between us. And I know I told you we’d find a way to balance our jobs and our relationship, and I’ve been slacking in that department. [Scoffs] I missed you. And you deserve better. I promise, things will be better from now on.

Ashley: Am I proud of you? You didn’t really keep up your end of the bargain.

Tucker: Ashley, I tried my best to do right by devon, to prove to him that I could be a better man and a better father to him. I was just going to hand my company over to him. I offered to stay on as an advisor so I could work alongside him, so we could rebuild the business together. I mean, do you doubt my sincerity in this?

Ashley: I know you tried. I believe that. But I think your take on his rejection is just a little bit too shiny.

Tucker: No, but I actually believe, honestly believe, that– the way things turned out is gonna be the best thing for him and lily. And I can’t force him to do something he doesn’t really want to do. That would be putting my wants ahead of his. I have to respect his position. And despite my best efforts, he just doesn’t trust me. I really want you to tell me that’s not true for you.

Ashley: I don’t know how to answer.

Tucker: Don’t do that! Don’T… don’t use devon to retreat again and put up your walls, ashley. You know, there was nothing fake about our fake engagement to me. I’ve opened my heart to you. I want to marry you. I want to be the husband to you that I should have been the first time. And I saw that look in your eye when I asked you, and I knew that you wanted it as much as I do, but then you pull away as you always do, because you won’t let yourself believe it.

Ashley: I can’T.

Tucker: [Sighs]

Ashley: Look, I’m sorry. Maybe it’s easy for you just to let go of the past and move on with your life, but it’s not that easy for me. Okay? I’m having a hard time doing that. But then again, you weren’t the one that was deceived, right? I mean, you did really crappy, despicable things to me. And you know what? You’re always going to have a roving eye, because that’s just who you are.

Tucker: Not anymore.

Ashley: Yes, it is. You love the game. You know you do. You dropped in on all of us, literally, out of the blue. You hid your alliance with diane. You hid your alliance with audra. And you think I’m stupid? Really, tucker, you think I don’t know there’s a little something going on between the two of you?

Tucker: I have tried every conceivable way to show you that I have changed. You have to know now that my love for you is real. Yeah. But that’s not good enough for you, though, is it?

Mariah: [Laughs]

[Cellphone rings] Uh…oh, this is work. It’s from one of my teammates. I’ll be right back. Sorry. Hello? Yeah. I’m heading out.

Sharon: Um, abby, I want to talk to you about something. I’m glad we have a moment alone.

Abby: Do you want to talk about chance? I know that he’s been confiding in you. I’m sure you’ve heard an earful about me.

Sharon: No. I told you a long time ago, I’m very fond of you and devon and chance, and I’m not judging. It’s not my place to. I wanted to talk to you about mariah and tessa. I’m, um, hoping to throw them a baby shower, and I really want it to be a surprise.

Abby: That’s amazing. That’s a great idea. Yeah. We could get around mariah insisting that it’s not necessary and that we shouldn’t go to the trouble.

Sharon: Exactly.

Abby: Because it is no trouble at all. Showering mariah and tessa with gifts and love– they deserve it all. So you can totally do it at society. Just tell me when.

Victoria: Good work speaks for itself, and the rewards– they just follow. You don’t really have to push it.

Audra: I just wanted to be honest about my intentions.

[Knock on door]

Nate: Hey. Um… just wanted to let you know i decided to come in and take care of a couple of things.

Victoria: Great. Better late than never.

Audra: Victoria was just filling me in on the langston deal. Exciting.

Nate: Yeah, yeah. It should be a good acquisition for us.

Audra: Yeah, I agree. Have you had a chance to look at the audio book app I sent you? I meant to follow up with you about it last night, but I couldn’t track you down.

Nate: Yeah, I was, uh, tackling some other stuff.

Audra: Right. Of course. Uh, you two were greenlighting the langston deal.

Nate: Look, uh, I should have some time this afternoon to go over stuff. Uh, let’s sit down in a bit.

Audra: I’ll be in my office.

Victoria: So… what brings you into the office today after all?

Ashley: I’m sorry that I can’t tell you what you want to hear. I’m sorry I can’t tell you that I see us riding off into the sunset.

Tucker: You can. You choose not to.

Ashley: I never made you any promises.

Tucker: No, I suppose you didn’T. Always consider myself a smart man. But I’ve been an absolute fool when it comes to you. And I have failed at every turn. My own son wants nothing to do with me, and now the woman I love does not love me in return. But you know, you say that I’m the one who enjoys the game. I don’t think so. I think you’re the only one playing games here, ashley. Yes, because if you never felt any genuine feelings for me, that means you were just enjoying, uh, torturing me and manipulating me.

Ashley: Look, that’s not true.

Tucker: It is true!

Ashley: It’s not.

Tucker: Yes, it is. Of course it is. You wanna just–you love it to see me just tie myself in knots for your own amusement! Well, so much for good intentions, man. I am done.

Ashley: You’re done?

Tucker: Yes, I’m done with this exercise in self-flagellation.

Ashley: Okay, so–

Tucker: I know when I’m beat. I said I’m beat!

Ashley: Okay. What does that mean? What does it mean, tucker?

Tucker: I’m going to pick up this phone. I’m gonna– I’m gonna sell my company, and I’m gonna leave this town.

Ashley: Okay, so now you’re threatening me.

Tucker: No, I’m telling you the truth. I don’t know how you can be so cold. Of course, I don’t know how I didn’t see it coming. Because you love to push me and you just push me and push me right to the edge, and then you push me over, and you get some kind of sick satisfaction out of it! You know what you are? A sadist!

Ashley: Okay. Thank you so much for the drink. You do whatever you need to do. Want luxury hair repair that doesn’t cost $50?

“The young and the restless” will continue.

Sharon: Here you go. Coffee and pastries to keep you going.

Mariah: Thank you so much. You are a lifesaver. I’m sorry I can’t stay and chat longer.

Sharon: No, go on, get home and give aria a kiss for me.

Elena: Give her a kiss for me, too.

Mariah: Hi! You just missed an endless barrage of baby photos.

Elena: Ooh, text me next time.

Sharon: Me, too.

Mariah: Well, we’ll probably have a photo session this afternoon, so…

[Laughter] See you.

Sharon: Bye.

Elena: Bye.

Sharon: Elena. What can I get you?

Elena: Uh, oat milk latte, please.

Sharon: You got it. You know, actually, I’m glad you stopped by. It saves me the call. We are throwing a baby shower for mariah and tessa, and it’s a surprise. Tomorrow at society. Do you think you can make it?

Elena: Um, I’m working nights for the foreseeable future, so yeah, I’ll be there.

Sharon: Great. It’ll be so much fun. Things are really coming together for mariah and tessa. It’s so nice to see. They are just happier than ever.

Elena: That’s the way it should be.

Sharon: Is everything all right with you?

Elena: Yeah. Yeah, I’m fine. Thank you.

Victoria: Well, I was kind of wondering if– if you were taking the day off because of… you know, because of what happened between us.

Nate: I was. I needed some time to consider the situation before seeing you.

Victoria: Okay. Um…I’m not really liking where this is going.

Nate: We made a mistake.

Victoria: “We”? Uh…look, maybe you feel that way, but you can’t speak for me. I don’t feel like I made a mistake.

Nate: All right. I made a mistake. I’m the one who’s in a committed relationship, one that I value deeply. Look, I don’t want to be that guy who betrays the person I love, okay? Someone who risks wrecking a good thing because I lost control.

Victoria: Don’t you feel like maybe it’s more than that at this point?

Nate: Victoria, you’re an incredible woman, and I’m not denying the connection between us.

Victoria: By that you mean a meeting of the minds, an incredible physical connection.

Nate: This is about right and wrong. I am with elena. We acted impulsively without thinking about the repercussions. The fact that your brother almost walked in on us proves the point that we weren’t thinking straight.

Victoria: My brother won’t be an issue. He’s not that much of a hypocrite.

Nate: [Scoffs] Hate to tell you, but he tracked me down last night, made all sorts of accusations, and I don’t think it’s the last we’re going to hear from him.

Tucker: What do you want?

Audra: Well, hello to you, too. You know, you really know how to make a woman feel welcome.

Tucker: Not really interested in your repartee at the moment.

Audra: You used to love my repartee.

Tucker: Yeah. Get to the point.

Audra: Okay, well, I said I would get back to you about your offer to locate J.T. Hellstrom, but your help won’t be needed. You know, I’ve just been feeling especially resourceful and lucky lately. I don’t know, but it’s like useful information just keeps falling into my lap, and I don’t want to be indebted to you when I have other options at my disposal. So thanks, but no, thanks.

Tucker: Fine. Is that it?

Audra: You are in a mood. Mm. Does it have anything to do with the half-empty champagne glass? Let me guess. Your latest attempt to woo ashley crashed and burned. Like I told you, you are kidding yourself when it comes to that woman.

Tucker: Great. Congratulations. You were right. I was wrong. You’re smart. I’m stupid. There’s the door.

Audra: See you around, tucker.

[Door slams]

Abby: Mom?

Ashley: Oh, hey.

Abby: Hi.

Ashley: Hi. I was just, uh, taking a chance that you were here.

Abby: Uh, yeah. Is everything okay?

Ashley: Sure. I mean, we haven’t had a lot of mother-daughter time lately, and I could use some of that, so…

Abby: Well, me, too. Come inside.

Ashley: Okay.

Abby: Well, it looks like I will get some mother and father time.

Victor: Oh, my goodness. Hi, sweetheart.

Abby: Dad, hi. What are you doing here, flying solo?

Victor: Well, you know, taking a little time for myself after all the things that have happened.

Ashley: Yep. A lot of information to digest.

Victor: Yes, indeed. Why don’t you two sit down? We need to discuss something as a family, all right?

Victor: My dear abby, I’m sure your mother is as interested as I am in your new living arrangement.

Ashley: Oh, I am indeed.

Abby: Well, it’s new, but no regrets. Dom and I are making ourselves at home.

Ashley: Okay. Well, I’m not gonna lie. I was a little surprised when I first heard. But…clearly, I hope it all works out the way you want it to, honey.

Abby: Well, it is so far.

Victor: Well, devon seems to be in a better place now that you and his son are living with him. And you went back to work at chancellor-winters.

Ashley: Right, instead of pursuing mccall.

Victor: Uh…

Ashley: Yeah, tucker told me.

Audra: Hi. Uh, mind if I join you?

Elena: Yeah, sure. Take a seat.

Audra: Where was your head.

Elena: About a million different places. Mostly back at home, I guess.

Audra: What happened there?

Elena: Hey, tell me, did you happen to see nick yesterday?

Audra: Uh, yeah, I-I ran into him briefly at the office last night.

Elena: Did he happen to mention anything about being frustrated with newman or nate?

Audra: Um…no. Why are you asking?

Elena: Because I met nate at society, and when I got there, he and nick were having an intense conversation.

Audra: Hmm. You didn’t ask nate what it was about?

Elena: Yeah, he explained that he and nick have been having issues since he came on board, that nick doesn’t like that victoria relies on him so much. I…I guess it was a good conversation.

Audra: But you’re still coming to me looking for answers. So…which part of his story are you doubting?

Victoria: [Sighs] I told nick this was none of his business.

Nate: Hmm. Obviously, he felt differently. Went off on me for getting involved with you, accused me of having some sort of an agenda.

Victoria: I know. Using me for your own personal gain. I told him that was not happening. I shut him down. I mean, at least i thought I shut him down.

Nate: I can’t afford a repeat performance. Elena showed up.

Victoria: What? Did he say anything to her about me?

Nate: Not this time.

Victoria: Well, I’ll make sure that that doesn’t happen. I-I promise.

Nate: Good. Then let’s close the door on this and move on. Forget this thing between us ever happened.

Victoria: Do you really think that’s possible? Nicorette knows quitting smoking is freaking hard.

Elena: It’s not that I don’t believe what nate told me. He was very loving and reassuring. But at the same time, nate has also sworn to me that work wouldn’t get in the way of our relationship and that I wouldn’t have to worry about victoria. And as much as I think he wants that to be the case, I’m not sure it is.

Audra: Look, you should know that their dynamic at the office is still as intense as ever. Victoria newman is used to getting what she wants. So the sooner she can set her sights on something else, the better it will be for everyone.

Elena: And by something else, you mean J.T. I know. I still need to track him down to interview for my podcast.

Audra: I can take over the search if you want. Not just to help you personally, but, you know, it would also be a major win for newman media.

Elena: Yeah, that’d be great.

Audra: No problem. I already explored one avenue that didn’t pan out. But I promise you, I won’t let you down.

Elena: Thanks. All right, well… [Sips] I’ve got to get back to memorial, so we will touch base later.

Elena: Count on it. Hey, hon. How’s my favorite rock turner? Oh, I’m good. You know, just settling into life in genoa city. Yeah, no, it’s–it’s been interesting. It’s about to get more so. Listen, I’m calling you because I need a favor. I’m–I’m trying to track someone down. The name is J.T. Hellstrom.

Victoria: I think what’s happening between us is happening for a reason. It’s not just out of the blue. Even if you’re not ready to admit it, you know it’s true. Those feelings, you know, they’re not– they’re not just gonna go away if we ignore them, right?

Nate: I disagree. It ends here. It has to.

Victoria: Okay. I respect that. Even though I know you’re eventually going to change your mind.

Nate: I won’T. But again, I hope this won’t affect our working relationship.

Victoria: Oh, you don’t have to worry on that front. I know how to keep business separate from personal.

Nate: Then let’s get back to business.

Abby: Well, dad sure left in a hurry. I wonder what was wrong.

Ashley: I don’t know, but when victor moves that quickly, somebody’s in trouble.

Abby: What was dad talking about with you and devon and tucker, the whole mccall thing? Is there something I should be worried about?

Ashley: No, honey, there’s nothing to worry about. I wanted devon to buy mccall so that he could, you know, mend his relationship with his father. But I totally understand why devon wants to stay with lily at chancellor-winters, so no problem.

Abby: Right. Because he doesn’t fully trust him, and I agree with him. We need to set some healthy boundaries, a healthy distance.

Ashley: I get your message, and it’s not an issue.

Abby: Good. Okay, well, I am going to go check on some things in the kitchen. I’ll be right back.

Ashley: Okay.

Tucker: Welcome.

Victor: Hello, tucker mccall. So what the hell is all this about?

Tucker: An offer. A deal to be made. Victoria may no longer want mccall unlimited for newman enterprises, but I assume you’re still interested.

Victor: Yeah.

Tucker: Good.

Victor: I want the company for adam.

Tucker: Yeah, I don’t care what you do with it. I just want to sell it so I can be out of this godforsaken town.

Victor: For good?

Tucker: [Chuckles] Will that make a difference in your offer?

Victor: Well, now, does that mean if I throw in a few more bucks, you get the hell out of town permanently? Is that it?

Tucker: Just give me a reasonable figure, victor, and I will have the paperwork drawn up immediately. Deal?

Victor: It’s a deal.

[ Jack sighing ]

[ Diane sighing ]

Jack: Sweetheart, you have no idea how good it is to see you.

Diane: Jack, thank god you’re here.

Jack: Are you okay? Is there anything I can get you?

Diane: They took my ring.

Jack: Oh, we’ll get that back, don’t worry about that. Did you sleep at all?

Diane: No, I kept on– I just kept thinking about you. How– how good it would feel to have your arms around me. Take a– take a shower, put on some clean clothes. You know, if I had known I was going to be arrested at phyllis’s memorial, I might have worn something more sensible.

Jack: I cannot imagine how hellish this has been for you.

Diane: Well, my secret is I’m just pretending it’s not happening. I keep telling myself that they’ve made a mistake and that they’ll realize I’m not a murderer and then they’ll just let me go.

Jack: As much as I want to believe that, I’m afraid it’s time to face some difficult truths.

Kyle: I woke up around three. Where’d you go? Still couldn’t sleep?

Summer: I went to check on harrison. His room is so peaceful, you know. I crawled into bed with him and before I knew it, I was out.

Kyle: Good. You needed it.

Summer: What about you? Part of the reason I left was so that I wouldn’t keep you up.

Kyle: Oh, uh, for a while, I was in that hazy place. Not quite asleep, but not awake. And the rest of the night, I was going down rabbit holes online and torn between giving you your space and checking to see if you were okay.

Summer: How could I be okay? I just keep replaying my mom’s last moments. I mean, she was lucid enough to say poison. Was she lucid enough to be afraid, to feel pain? And did she think about me or daniel?

Kyle: Summer, don’t–

Summer: What were you– what were you researching online?

Kyle: I was looking up names of criminal defense lawyers because today’s my mom’s arraignment. And we still don’t know if michael baldwin’s gonna be our guy.

Summer: Don’t you think it’s a little heartless or, I don’t know, perverse asking him to defend diane in my mom’s murder?

Noah: Summer?

Summer: Noah. Oh, my god.

[ Summer sniffling ]

Chance: You filed the criminal complaint against diane?

Christine: Bright and early?

Chance: All right. What do you need from me?

Christine: Talk me through the evidence.

Chance: Okay. Well, there is phyllis’s toxicology report and that proves there was poison in her blood. There’s a vial of poison that I found in her room and I have evidence that links diane to the purchase of that poison. Of course, there are witnesses to a threat that night, as well as a very long history of antagonistic behavior.

Christine: I just don’t want any surprises at the arraignment.

Chance: I can’t promise you that. We’re dealing with a lot of people who haven’t shown any kind of respect for the legal system.

Christine: Yeah. I talked to jack.

Chance: Oh, yeah. What’s his game plan?

Christine: They’re gonna plead not guilty and ask for bail.

Chance: I mean, any judge would have to deny that.

Christine: Yeah. With her history, his money, forget it. Flight risk.

Chance: I hope the judge sees it that way. Who did they get for a lawyer?

Christine: As far as I know, that job’s still open.

I used to pre-rinse dishes cause my old detergent

Noah: I’m so sorry that I wasn’t here.

Allie: We flew back from london as soon as we could.

Summer: Well, you’re here now and that’s all that matters.

Noah: It just– it doesn’t make sense to me. I mean, phyllis and then diane got arrested.

Summer: Yeah, she was charged with murder. They found poison in my mom’s system and they tied it back to diane.

Allie: I thought this was all an accident, right? Wasn’t there an ambulance?

Summer: No, it was murder. My mom was poisoned. It was a premeditated act at the G.C.A.C. It wasn’t some accident on a dark road.

Allie: It just– it’s so hard to believe.

Kyle: It is. There are certain things we don’t know for sure.

Summer: All of the evidence is pointing at diane. I– I– I don’t know why you would doubt it.

Allie: Murderer? I don’t know. She was so happy here with you guys, jack, harrison. Maybe there’s, um, another option that we’ve overlooked.

Kyle: That’s what I’ve been saying.

Summer: Under the right circumstances, everyone is capable of murder.

Diane: It’s so good to see your face.

Jack: I hate seeing you like this. I want to grab you and take you out of this place.

Diane: I want that too. But the arraignment’s still today, right?

Jack: Yes, but–

Diane: So, I’ll get in front of a judge, I’ll tell them I’m not guilty. They’ll set bail and I’ll get to leave.

Jack: Let’s talk about the bail.

[ Diane sighing ]

Diane: Yeah. And given my unfortunate history of disappearing, there’s– there’s the probability that I’ll be denied bail. Which means that I am stuck here until the trial begins.

Jack: No, wait, wait, don’t get ahead of yourself. Let’s take this one step at a time. Let’s talk facts.

Diane: Yeah, fact is, I don’t even have a lawyer. And– and christine is the D.A., Which means that we need someone who’s not intimidated by her. Some– some heavy hitter who just loves fighting for the underdog.

Jack: I have spoken to michael again.

Diane: No, he has already turned me down.

Jack: He’s the right man for the job. I will convince him to take your case.

Diane: Jack, I know that when you look at me, you see the woman you love, whom you believe, but when he looks at me, he sees his best friend’s nemesis. And lauren would never forgive him if he defended me. She loved phyllis. They both did.

Jack: That doesn’t matter.

Diane: Well, it matters to me. I want someone who doesn’t know about my past. Who has– who has no relationship with you. Some– someone who’s just in it for the money because everybody else wants me dead. Everybody but you and kyle. I mean, I might as well admit it, you know. Everything is stacked against me and I don’t have a chance in hell.

Jack: You have me and we will get you through this, together.

Nikki: And, you can’t take diane on as a client. You work for victor.

Jack: If a worthwhile case finds its way to my desk, I am free to do as I choose.

Nikki: The operative word there being worthwhile.

Michael: Do you really, nikki, believe that diane is a murderer?

Nikki: Yes, I do. She has despised phyllis for decades and that kind of hatred doesn’t just disappear. That’s motive. And there were witnesses, including jack that saw her threaten phyllis that night. My god, michael. I mean, I know you’re an attorney, but don’t you have any common decency?

Michael: You are cherry-picking facts to suit your narrative.

Nikki: That’s because my narrative is the right one.

Victor: What, pray tell, is this all about?

Kyle: It’s definitely one of the more complicated and stressful situations we’ve been through, but the guilty party still hasn’t been arrested. So, once stark is in a cell–

Summer: Look, I know that it hurts, kyle. You don’t want to believe that your mom could be so evil, but all of the evidence is pointing squarely at diane and the sooner you accept that, the less painful it’s gonna be.

Kyle: Good thing you’re not the judge and jury.

Summer: No, but I’m probably gonna be a witness and I’ll be sure to tell them that I heard your mom threaten to murder my mom.

Allie: You know that– that’s a lot, summer. I know how hard it is to lose a parent. I lost my dad last year and it was so incredibly painful.

Summer: I’m really sorry for your loss, allie, but I imagine it was under very different circumstances.

Noah: Hey, you know, I’m– I’m feeling a little stir crazy.

Allie: Yeah, it was such a long flight.

Noah: Yeah, yeah, it was. You know, summer, I could probably catch a second wind if you want to get out of here. Maybe grab something to eat.

Summer: I don’t know.

Noah: Come on. It’s been a long time since I’ve had some one on one with my sister. You don’t mind, do you, kyle?

Kyle: No, it’s a good idea. I’m still waiting to find out if my dad was able to retain michael baldwin for my mom’s attorney.

Summer: Seriously, still? Michael baldwin?

Noah: Hey, what do you say?

Summer: Get me out of here, now.

Kyle: Bet you’re glad you came home from your vacation early.

Allie: Oh, kyle, I’m so sorry.

Kyle: The two women I love the most in this universe cannot exist together. What am I supposed to do?

Jack: I know you don’t want to get your hopes up, but right after this, I am meeting with michael and I am not going to give up until I get him to take your case.

Diane: He won’t do it out of respect for phyllis and his wife. And I get that. And we need to respect his choices, agreed?

Jack: You’re ready to have have a stranger be in charge of your life?

Diane: No, I just want to come home, jack. I mean, this– this feels like a nightmare, but it’s my life. I mean, one minute the man of my dreams is announcing our engagement, and the next, I’m in a jail cell framed for murder, facing the rest of my life in prison.

Jack: I promise you, we will get you through this.

Diane: I don’t know. I don’t know. Maybe not this time. I mean, I already– I already fought myself back from total disgrace. I tried to rebuild my life. I tried to earn the forgiveness of everybody that I care about.

[ Diane sighing ] I mean, I– I actually thought that you and I could have a life together, a future together. And I– I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Jack: Don’t say that, that’s not true.

Diane: You know, you and i were so proud that we had pulled one over on jeremy and so he did this. And now he’s got the last laugh.

Jack: We will prove that he is the guilty party.

Diane: Yeah, but what if we can’t? I mean, that’s how he operates. Somebody else always takes the fall and this time it’s me.

Jack: Do you trust me?

[ Diane exhaling ]

Diane: Of course I do.

Jack: There is nothing in the world I wouldn’t do for you and I will not let you pay for a crime you didn’t commit.

[ Clicking ]

Diane: That means our visit’s over.

Jack: Okay. I– I’ll see you at the arraignment. Be strong, have faith, and know that every moment that passes, I am working to get you back home.

Christine: Even though we have very strong evidence against diane, I think we need to leave all of our avenues open. I wouldn’t want the other side accusing us of confirmation bias.

Chance: Yeah. Well, jack and kyle are convinced that stark killed phyllis so he could frame diane for it, so I’m looking into that.

Christine: Okay, and show me how that all connects, you know? Who and why, who benefits, what would stark’s motive be for murder?

Chance: Money? You know, he’s getting half of phyllis’s estate. I mean, that’s a hell of a payout for a couple days of wedded bliss, you know.

Christine: A vibrant, beautiful woman with friends and family marries a criminal with whom she has no romantic relationship. Not even a friendship that we know of? Why?

Chance: Well, stark said it was for protection. Yeah, phyllis was scared of diane, but knew that diane was scared of stark. So, she married him.

Christine: And I don’t buy that. Phyllis wasn’t afraid of anyone. Why would she fear diane and not stark? He was the one who was unpredictable and dangerous. Diane was just a major annoyance, not someone that would make her run for cover. Not the phyllis summers I knew.

Chance: Yeah, I didn’t buy that either. She wouldn’t run from anyone.

Christine: Could retribution be a motive?

Chance: Yeah, that is possible. I mean, you should have seen stark when he found out jack and diane framed him for stealing that necklace.

Christine: Yeah, but there was never any actual proof of that.

Chance: It didn’t matter. I mean, a guy like stark, he finds out that somebody’s trying to mess with him? Getting revenge becomes an obsession.

Christine: Okay. Show me what that would look like.

Chance: Well, he marries phyllis for the money, kills her, frames diane for the murder. He gets beaucoup bucks and he gets to watch diane go to prison.

Christine: Pay back with a little bit of payout.

Chance: Two birds, one stone.

Christine: Hm.

Nikki: Michael is about to defend the indefensible, diane.

Victor: Why in the world would you do that?

Michael: The truth is, I haven’t really–

Victor: Wait a minute. Am i not keeping you busy enough?

Michael: I enjoy my job very much.

Victor: Good.

Michael: Just as I was enjoying my coffee until a few minutes ago. Oh, well, would you look at that, my morning meeting. Nikki, thank you for the enlightening conversation. Quite edifying, but I’m sure you have a full day ahead of you.

Victor: Now jack, don’t keep him too long, all right? He’s on my payroll, okay?

Nikki: Jack.

Michael: Can I get you anything? Have you even eaten?

Jack: No appetite.

Michael: Have you seen diane?

Jack: I just left her.

Michael: How’s she holding up?

Jack: Not well. We still don’t have an attorney and I know you don’t want to hear this, but her future is in your hands. Known as a passionate artist.

Christine: Without having strong evidence tying stark to this crime, all we have are interesting theories.

[ Chance sighing ]

Chance: You want me to have another conversation with him? Bring him into the station?

Christine: Would it do any good?

Chance: He’s pretty tight-lipped. He knows how to talk to police. He’ll probably just find a way to wiggle free.

Christine: It’s worth a try. Is he still in town?

Chance: Yeah, as far as I know. I’m tracking his finances, so if he moves any cash or makes any kind of big purchase, I’ll know.

Christine: Smart. Oh, god. I mean, what are we missing? A woman like phyllis marries a criminal and then willingly gives over half her money.

Chance: Maybe he had something on her, had something she wanted. I don’t know. All I know is that I’m not getting the whole… one second. Chancellor. Yeah, what you got? Yes, that was the plan. Today? Ugh. All right. Well, then we need more boots on the ground asap. Yeah, hey, let me call you back.

Christine: That about stark?

Chance: He checked out of the graham phoenix, right after the distribution of phyllis’s assets into his account.

Christine: You’ve got to be kidding?

Chance: It gets worse. No one knows where the hell he is.

[ Christine sighing ]

Kyle: It all comes back to stark. He concocted this entire thing to get back at my mom.

Allie: Because of their time in california?

Kyle: Yeah, she turns on him for laundering money. He does time in a federal prison. While he’s away, she gives up that way of life. Comes back to genoa city. He gets released and follows her here fixated on one goal, to make my mom pay.

Allie: Okay. Yeah, I mean, that all makes sense.

Kyle: Yeah. My parents do everything they can think of to try to get him to leave town, but stark won’t go. They finally find a solution. Make it look like he’s returned to his criminal ways. They tip off the cops. Cops catch stark red-handed. Just like that, he’s back in jail.

Allie: But he’s out again?

Kyle: With an axe to grind. He needed to send my mother a message, so he took advantage of the already volatile situation. The deadly feud between phyllis and my mother.

Allie: So he killed phyllis and made it look like diane did it.

Kyle: That’s what I think.

Allie: Why not just kill diane? Now that I say that out loud, it sounds even worse than it was in my head.

Kyle: It’s okay. I’ve already thought about that. I think he thinks it’s more fun to watch my mom suffer. Phyllis was just collateral damage.

Allie: That sounds so dark. But given who jeremy stark is, I guess it’s feasible. Summer’s not buying it at all?

Kyle: No. She’s grieving her mother and she thinks my mother is to blame, so there’s no convincing her. Not much communication lately.

Allie: I am so sorry that you guys are going through this.

Kyle: The only way out is to prove my mother’s innocent and she doesn’t even have an attorney yet.

Michael: As much as I’ve come to believe that diane is being framed by jeremy stark.

Jack: Whoa, whoa, whoa, you cannot know how happy I am to hear you say those words.

Michael: But– but, there is no easy way to say this, I can’t take diane’s case.

Jack: Okay. Can– can we discuss why?

Michael: Two words. Phyllis, lauren. She was my best friend, our friend, she was your friend too and now you’re asking me to help the woman that–

Jack: You just said yourself, diane has been framed. She is defenseless, counselor. Against murder charges.

Michael: Phyllis’s spirit would haunt me until the day I die if I help diane. And lauren would be worse. All right, look, I– I need time–

Jack: Diane’s arraignment is in one hour.

Michael: So am i your last resort?

Jack: You are the only game in town as far as we’re concerned.

Nikki: Victor, you’re staring.

Victor: I want him to see me watching him.

Nikki: Do you really think he’s going to take the case?

Victor: He’s a smart man. I think he’ll do the right thing.

Michael: You do realize I work for victor?

Jack: I will do my very best not to hold that against you. Michael, I am the first person to say diane has made mistakes. That was a lifetime ago. You’ve seen yourself, she has changed. Look, she’s reunited with kyle. She has a wonderful relationship with harrison. She and I are about to plan a wedding. Why would she jeopardize all of that just to get back at an old foe? It makes no sense. And the more you dig, michael, the more this makes no sense at all. She is being punished by that son of a bitch, stark. Now, can you honestly stand by and watch her take her chances with just any lawyer? And keep this in mind, if she goes to prison, the actual killer is still on the streets, newly emboldened because he thinks he can get away with murder. I need your help, michael, please. Diane needs you. Imagine if you could get ahead of your ibs-C…

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Michael: Jack, it’s an interesting case, but I know once you find the right attorney–

Jack: I have found the right attorney. You know all the stories, all the history, all the players. I’m looking at the best. Without you, we are lost.

Sharon: Noah.

Noah: I know, I didn’t call, I’m sorry.

Sharon: Oh, my goodness. I’m so glad you’re here.

[ Sharon sighing ] Is there anything I can do?

Noah: Maybe just a quiet table for two. Couple of iced coffees.

Sharon: You got it.

Noah: Thanks.

Chance: Well.

Sharon: I, uh, I wish I had something to fix her broken heart. You know, phyllis really was a good mother and she was particularly close with summer. This is gonna be really hard on the kids.

Chance: Well, at least she has her brothers.

Noah: Dad told me about that service you put together for her. I’m sure she’d be proud of you.

Summer: Just reminded me that we really need to love the people in our lives while they’re still here. Tell them how much they mean to us and that we appreciate them because I mean, she was so loved, more than she knew, probably. I just wish that she could tell me that she forgives me, but I’m never gonna get that. I’m just gonna have to miss her like this for the rest of my life.

Victor: Have a good day, michael.

Kyle: Has michael agreed to take the case?

Jack: No, we are back to square one.

Kyle: Well, if it’s any consolation, allie’s here.

Allie: Hey, jack.

Jack: Hey, it’s great to hear your voice, sweetheart. Did you come home early?

Allie: Being at home right now is way more important.

Jack: Let me get back to you. I– I think I’m about to get some news.

Kyle: Okay, good luck.

Jack: Thanks. So, did you find us a defense attorney?

Michael: Yeah, about that. We need to talk. So, you found the no7 then…

Nikki: Your father just left. I don’t know. He said he had an errand to run. I know, victoria. I’m worried about that too. Look, I’ll be at the office soon. I will fill you in later. Okay.

Milton: Captivating. Simply captivating.

Nikki: Hello, milton. It’s been a while. How are things in accounting?

Milton: Everything is adding up. That was–

Nikki: An accounting joke. Yeah, I get it. And how’s your wife? Uh, sarah is it?

Milton: Excellent memory. We’re divorced.

Nikki: Oh, I– I’m sorry to hear that.

Milton: Don’t be. Turns out she hated my accounting jokes. But that does mean, if there was ever a chance for us, nikki, this is it.

Nikki: Now, milton, as I have told you before, it’s– it’s just not going to happen. And you can’t really talk like that anymore.

Milton: Because victor would squash me like a bug.

Nikki: There’s that, but that kind of direct proposition, it– no matter even if it is in jest, some people would be uncomfortable with that. Like when you wanted me to live with you on that tropical island.

Milton: That. Yes, I can see how wrong that would be. What we should do is buy matching motorcycles and travel across the country, playing guitars around a campfire and looking up at the stars.

Nikki: Oh. Oh, milton. Milton, darling, I don’t play guitar.

Milton: Nikki newman, you are a golden goddess.

Noah: Listen, I wish I could have been here. I wish I could have said goodbye.

Summer: I do too.

Noah: Why did you have to go and have the memorial service so fast?

Summer: I’m sorry. Noah, I’m sorry, but you got to understand that there– there– there are reasons why I had to do it the way that I did it and I– I can’t explain it all now, but it’s just– look, I promise you, you and I will do something really special to honor my mom’s memory, okay? It’s just been– trying to balance my grief over losing mom in such a horrific way with kyle’s refusal to acknowledge diane’s guilt.

Noah: Summer, summer, summer, we don’t know that for certain. Look, I– I can’t lie. I’m– I’m worried about you, okay?

Summer: I’m fine. I’m keeping busy. There is just so much that I need to do and today is just one step, but it– it– it’s an important one.

Noah: Diane’s arraignment?

Summer: Yeah. And so, um, I actually need to get going and I’m– I’m sorry to do this, but I’ll be in touch, okay? And I love you so much and I’m so glad that you’re home.

Noah: Love you too.

[ Noah sighing ]

Kyle: Uh, sorry to interrupt, sharon. Uh, summer?

Sharon: She was out on the patio, but–

Kyle: Thanks.

Noah: Yeah, I’m about to head back now. Yeah, I’ll grab you some food. Love you too.

Kyle: Where’s summer?

Noah: She just took off.

Kyle: Yeah, I tried calling, but she wouldn’t pick up.

Noah: Yeah, well, she’s got a lot on her mind right now, man.

Kyle: We both do, but we’ll get through it.

Noah: You as confident as you sound? Because I doubt it’ll be that easy?

Kyle: Of course, it’s not, but once we prove my mother’s innocent–

Noah: Then what? What, summer will just have to face facts? How exactly does that work, kyle? Because even if you have evidence, even if you can prove that stark is responsible, summer is gonna be miles away from okay. Because whether you like it or not, stark’s intentions in killing phyllis come down to the same damn thing and that’s diane, she’s the trigger. Summer’s not gonna forget that.

Diane: Michael. Are you here to see a client?

Michael: Please sit. Yes, I am indeed here to see a client. You.

Diane: Thank you.

Michael: Don’t celebrate. Don’t– don’t, please don’t celebrate quite yet. I just lost my best friend a few days ago. She was funny and fierce and I will miss her forever. And so will my wife who adored her.

Diane: I know.

Michael: You have no idea.

[ Michael sighing ] I didn’t take this case lightly, diane. You deserve a vigorous defense and I intend to give you one, but we don’t have much time. We have less time than I even thought. We have a lot of work to do. But I require– I require one thing of you.

Diane: Tell me what it is.

Michael: The truth, at all times.

Diane: You have my word, michael. Thank you so much for taking my case. I don’t know what– what made you change your mind, but I am so grateful that you did. I feel like I might have a fighting chance. I might actually go home. I’ve been telling everyone.

Chance: I mean, would it kill them to call me and tell me what the judge decided?

Sharon: I’m sure you’ll hear from christine soon. And then once you do, will you start to look into stark’s connection?

Chance: Yeah. Yeah, there’s definitely something going on there. I mean, he just disappeared. His wife’s murderer hasn’t even gone to trial yet and he disappears. I mean, he’s risking a parole violation by taking off. Why would he risk going back to jail right now? I mean, he’s gotta be running from something or to something or to someone. Sorry, if I’m boring you, I’m just thinking out loud right now.

Sharon: It’s fascinating.

Chance: Oh, come on. I’m sure ray used to go on and on about work, no?

Sharon: Hardly. Really, you’ve told me a lot more than he ever did.

Chane: Mmm. Well, I usually don’t talk about work with anybody. Never did with abby.

Sharon: Well, I’m a vault so you don’t have to worry. If you were worried that I might be serving up gcpd secrets along with my croissants.

Chance: No, I, uh, I trust you. It’s weird. Not like a– a bad weird.

Sharon: Like, weird, weird?

Chance: It’s a nice weird. You know, you’re a good listener and you’re objective.

Sharon: Thank you. I also make a pretty good cup of coffee.

[ Chance laughing ] You know, there was a time when most people wouldn’t have thought there was anything decent about me.

Chance: Oh, were you a, uh, a troublemaker?

Sharon: Now, I’m a brownie baker.

[ Both laughing ] It can happen.

Chance: You are a lot more than that, sharon, a lot more.

Michael: You know, we discussed this possibility when we went in for diane’s arraignment.

Jack: No bail. She is a danger to no one, michael.

Michael: Well, the judge agreed with christine that she was a flight risk. And we knew that bail of any amount was a long shot.

Kyle: Okay, how can we get this appealed?

Michael: That’s not gonna happen. You know what? What we have to focus on is my specialty, building a strong defense.

Kyle: Yeah, proving stark engineered this whole thing. How can we get the police or the da to investigate?

Jack: We do whatever we have to, we hire our own people. We do whatever is necessary to clear diane’s name and bring her home.

Diane: Summer. I didn’t see you at the arraignment.

Summer: I’d like to think that this is exactly where my mom would want me to be.

Diane: Well, I’m glad you’re here.

Summer: Really? I’m not sure that you should be. I’m not here because of me. I’m here for you. ‘Cause you’re probably terrified, aren’t you? You don’t know what’s gonna happen next. So, I’m gonna tell you what’s gonna happen next. You’re stuck here. You’ll be found guilty of killing my mother and you’ll spend your days imagining all of the family celebrations that you’ll miss. And the wedding that you’ll never get to plan. The grandchildren you’ll never hold again and all the pictures that you won’t be in and don’t worry about kyle, diane. He’s lived most of his life without you, remember? We’re all gonna be fine. We’ll move on, but you’re gonna be stuck behind four gray walls, tortured by thoughts of a world that doesn’t want you. And then… then, you will get exactly what you deserve for ripping my mother out of all of our lives.

Kyle: This is a nightmare, dad. An arrest warrant, handcuffs? How can they even think mom killed phyllis?

Jack: I cannot bear the idea of diane spending even another second locked up for a crime I know she did not commit.

Kyle: Well, we– we have to post her bail, whatever it is.

Jack: If she can even get bail. Given her history for pulling disappearing acts, christine may argue for no release at all.

Kyle: Okay, well then what are we supposed to do? We can’t leave her sitting in a cell.

Jack: No, you are right. We have one choice. We have to prove her innocence, which is exactly what I’m going to do. We do have one other issue.

Kyle: What?

Jack: We don’t have a lot of support, even in our own house.

Kyle: Summer will be adamantly against anything we do. She truly believes my mom had something to do with phyllis’ death.

Jack: Summer is reaching out for answers. She is mistaken about your mother.

Kyle: Yeah. Well, that’s why we have to clear her name, not only for the authorities, but for my wife. If we don’t, I don’t know how my marriage survives.

[ Footsteps approaching, sighs ]

Chance: I guess I don’t have to ask what you’re doing here.

[ Summer sighing ]

Summer: I just couldn’t help myself. I keep thinking about that night and… it’s nagging at me. Something feels off and I can’t let it go.

Chance: And neither can I. Look, summer, maybe this isn’t the best place for you to be right now. You should go home or to the office. Anywhere but here.

Summer: I can’T. I can’t stay away.

Jeremy: You got that, phyllis? You have no life. And if you think you’re going back on our deal, I will make that a permanent reality.

Phyllis: You don’t scare me. You’re not a killer.

Jeremy: Okay, listen. You have absolutely no idea what I’m capable of. And you’re not gonna blow this for me.

[ Phyllis sighing ]

Phyllis: You got what you wanted. Diane is behind bars.

Jeremy: Yeah. And she won’t be for very long if you’re stupid enough to show your face in public. And if my role in your fake death is revealed, I’m going back to prison. And that’s not gonna happen. So, if I have a choice of going back to prison or killing you, that’s not a choice at all.

Adam: Well, after the ultrasound tomorrow, we’ll know the baby’s sex. It means you can get busy designing some very chic baby clothes. I know you’ve moved on from fashion as a career, but can you really resist making our baby the fashion model of the year?

Sally: I’m embarrassed to say I hadn’t even thought of that.

Adam: I’m surprised.

Sally: Right?

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Sally: But now that you mention it, I mean, how can I resist? Our baby can’t wear clothes off the rack, right?

Adam: No! Never.

[ Laughs ] Oh. Not flossing well?

Adam: Oh, it’s a newman family reunion. Should have called. I would’ve got the potato salad and the picnic basket ready.

Nick: Well, I don’t know about dad, but I’m definitely not here to see you.

Adam: Oh, well maybe you’re here to dangle some fresh new company in front of me, only to yank it away again just for fun.

Victor: Surprised to see you here, son. Especially with that lady.

Sally: Adam and I just ran into each other.

Adam: That’s right. I, uh, I insinuated myself into sally’s private tea time. You know how pushy I can be and she was too nice to ask me to leave, but I will not keep her any longer. She’s all yours.

Jack: Hey, we’re both going to have to be understanding of summer’s feelings. How could we not? She’s lost her mother. Grief has colored every part of her life. She’s looking for answers. She wants to blame someone. And diane is her mother’s greatest enemy. But the truth will come out. We’re gonna see to it, right?

Kyle: Absolutely, we are.

Jack: And when it does, summer will see that diane is innocent, just as clearly as we do.

Kyle: Yeah. Well, I’m relieved to hear your faith and mom hasn’t wavered. It’s just you and me, dad. No one else believes in her. Now, all we have to do is convince the world.

Jack: No. What we have to do is figure out what kind of case the gcpd is building against her. What possible evidence could be so damning against diane? I know they came here. I know they searched the house. What could they have found?

Kyle: Well, I’m guessing it’s something that links the poison in phyllis’s system to mom. Whatever it is, it was planted.

Jack: You’re right. You’re right. Stark found some way to get manufactured evidence into this house.

Kyle: Oh, how could he even get in here with all the security?

Jack: I don’t know. He did it somehow.

Kyle: Okay. Well, however he did it, there is no doubt in my mind that he’s framing mom.

Jack: Oh, clearly this is payback for how diane and I framed him for that jewelry heist with the newmans. God. He got exactly what he wanted. All of our lives are turned upside down. This is my fault. Diane would not be in this position if it weren’t for me.

Chance: I can’t imagine how painful it is being here.

Summer: It’s just like the memorial service. Coming here is a part of my penance.

Chance: Penance? Summer, none of this is your fault. You don’t have to do penance for anything. I hope you know that.

Summer: No, I do. I treated my mom so badly at the end. I know that diane’s been arrested, but until she is convicted and sentenced, I owe my mom an enormous debt. I just… I don’t know why I didn’t trust her. I should have believed her and… that’s a mistake that I’m gonna regret for the rest of my life.

Chance: Give yourself a break, okay? Take some time to grieve. You’re being really hard on yourself.

Summer: I am grieving. Coming here, it’s not just a penance. It also brings me some comfort, you know? This is forever gonna be the last place I saw my mom alive.

Phyllis: Listen, I have a plan. I will say that I came up with this entire scheme. That it was all me. I’ll keep your name out of it completely.

Jeremy: Who’s going to believe that? How could you possibly explain it all? Huh? The hijacked ambulance, the poison, the dead body doubles. What possible reason would you give for marrying me when you knew you were gonna fake your own deaths supposedly without me even knowing about it? No. There’s too many holes. It won’t work.

Phyllis: No. I’ll come up with plausible answers for every single thing. Trust me.

Jeremy: There’s no way I wouldn’t be implicated. So no, we are moving on with our plan whether you like it or not.

Phyllis: Look at you. You think you’re scaring me, don’t you? You’re nothing compared to the terrifying thought of my children needing me and I’m not there for them? My strength as a mother is fiercer than anything you got.

Dehydrated hair?

Kyle: Dad, I refuse to let you take any of the blame for what mom is going through. Stark has been out for revenge since the day he showed up. He had a plan even before the burglary in chicago. He was determined to make mom pay for rejecting him and helping put him away.

Jack: Of course, I know you’re right, but I have to take some responsibility for underestimating stark. I thought by just standing up to him, freezing him out, he would be neutralized. That not giving him that power in our lives, he would ultimately just give up and go away. Wow, was I wrong.

Kyle: Hey, stark has gotten lucky.

Jack: No, he has been one step ahead the whole way. I couldn’t have been more wrong about any of this. And now… and now phyllis has paid for her life by mistakes I made.

Kyle: Hey, hey. Who could have known how deranged that man is? That he would go as far as to murder phyllis to punish mom. That’s how little he values life.

Jack: I appreciate you defending me, but I– I deserve some of this guilt I am carrying. I… god, I handled this whole thing so badly. And moving forward, we can’t do that. We can’t make any mistakes. We know now, this man is a murderer and if he has that little value for human life, believe me, there’s no stopping him from killing again.

Phyllis: My children are suffering. They’re tortured. You didn’t hear the pain in their voice. Oh. I was wrong. I was wrong to do this. My children don’t hate me.

Jeremy: Okay.

Phyllis: No. Shh.

[ Phyllis exhales ] I can’t put them through this. I can’t put them through this. Okay? They regret the way that they treated me.

Jeremy: Okay. But you’re out of it now, okay? So deal with it. They made it very clear how they felt about you before your divorce.

Phyllis: I know, but– but they regret it. Seriously. Please, please just listen. They are tortured. They are tormented right now losing their mom like this.

Jeremy: You are blowing this way out of proportion.

Phyllis: I want you to see this from my angle, where I’m coming from, please.

Jeremy: Okay. I really don’t care where you’re coming from. I only care about where you’re going. Away.

Phyllis: No!

Jeremy: Okay.

Phyllis: I’m not going away!

Jeremy: We had a deal and I held up my end of the deal. Okay? This is exactly what you signed up for. What the hell did you think was gonna happen?

Phyllis: I didn’t know my children were going to suffer.

Jeremy: Oh, they’ll get over it.

Phyllis: No, they won’t get over it.

Jeremy: You wanted a part in taking diane down. Okay, you got it. We pulled it off. Plus you got to see her escorted away in cuffs. That had to be some sort of a satisfaction, huh? Justice served.

Phyllis: At what cost, huh? At what cost? Because what my kids are going through right now, it’s not worth it.

Jeremy: Okay. You’ll get over it.

Phyllis: I did an impulsive thing and I regret it.

Jeremy: Okay. You’ll get over it.

Phyllis: I’m not gonna get over it! Because everyday, I’m gonna look in the mirror and all I’m going to see is diane jenkins. This is what she did. And she let her son suffer for years and years thinking that she was dead. I cannot do that. I can’t go through another minute of this knowing how my children feel. I cannot do it.

Jeremy: Okay, just shut up and think. The only reason your kids softened towards you is because they think you are dead. Now, once you become alive again and they realize that you deliberately put ’em through this hell, trust me, it’s not gonna be sunshine and roses. And on top of that, there’s gonna be some serious consequences.

Phyllis: What are you talking about?

Jeremy: You’ll be facing charges too. And what kind of a happy reunion will it be with you behind bars, okay? That could be you in the prison cell instead of diane. Poor ol’ diane, the living martyr. You’re gonna be the locked up criminal. Hm? Are you gonna let her get away with that, huh? Are you gonna let her win?

Sally: Actually, if you will excuse me. I should be going.

Nick: Well, I showed up at the right time. I’ll drive you to the athletic club then.

Sally: Sure you don’t wanna stay and order something?

Nick: No, I’m good.

Sally: All right. Then, uh, good night.

Adam: Yeah. Thanks again for, um… thanks.

Victor: That was quite a display, son.

Adam: Mm-hmm. What’s that?

Victor: You know exactly what I’m talking about. You and your brother fawning over that woman.

Adam: Okay. Well, I can’t speak for nick, but I hope you have a good night.

Victor: Son.

Adam: Enjoy your coffee.

Victor: I’m talking to you. Don’t walk away from your father, okay?

[ Adam sighing ] Want luxury hair repair that doesn’t cost $50?

Kyle: You’re right, dad. We have to be on high alert where stark is concerned. We have no idea what he’s capable of.

Jack: I’m gonna call security. Have them double up. I don’t want that man anywhere near this house, especially with harrison here.

Kyle: Agreed. But one way or the other, we have to prove he’s behind what happened to phyllis. How do we even do that?

Jack: Carefully. Very carefully. Especially now that we know he’s not above murder.

Kyle: I’m gonna go check on mom at the police station, see if she needs anything. Hopefully, the initial shock has worn off and maybe she’ll have some fresh ideas as to how stark managed to pull this off.

Jack: Give her my love. Tell her I’ll be there shortly to update her on the whole lawyer situation. I have calls out to every major law firm in chicago, milwaukee, minneapolis. I’m not gonna give up ’til I find the right lawyer. We have to find her the right lawyer.

Summer: What are you doing all alone here tonight? I can’t imagine that you’re still working.

Chance: Actually, I am. I like to take in the crime scene while I think. That helps me kinda paint a picture of what happened. Can’t get that sitting at a desk.

Summer: Have you come up with anything?

Chance: No, not yet. I’m just taking notes.

Summer: Would it help you if I reenacted it? I mean, when my mom collapsed, I– I– I remember every single second of it. I keep replaying it in my head. The whole night, really, from the time that I– I criticized her at the bar ’til when she crumpled here on the floor. I just–

Chance: Summer–

Summer: No, seriously. It’s fine. I promise you. It’s all I think about anyway.

Chance: Let me call somebody for you, okay? Maybe your dad or kyle, maybe your brother.

Summer: No, there’s no need. Daniel’s grieving and kyle’s convinced that his mom is innocent and my dad just hates seeing me in pain. He just wants to give me a shoulder to cry on, but that’s not what I need right now. There’s only one thing that’s gonna make me feel better.

Chance: What’s that?

Summer: Knowing that my mom’s true killer will be punished.

Jeremy: You can see that there’s no way back, right? Only forward. You made your bed, now you have to live with it.

Phyllis: Oh, okay. You’re right. I have to stick with the plan. I have to stick with the plan. If I don’t, I’ll lose everything. Oh, my god. Yeah.

[ Phyllis sighing ] I just have to accept the fact that I have to start life anew.

Jeremy: Good. I was hoping you were gonna say that. Because the alternative…

Phyllis: You made it clear what the alternative is.

Jeremy: Look, there’s nothing bad with starting over. Just picture this. A secluded beach on a remote island where the water is bluer than the sky, the wave splashing against the shore, sipping our tropical drinks while we watch the sunset.

Phyllis: Sipping our drinks?

Jeremy: Oh, I… I didn’t mention that? Change of plans. I’m coming with you. When you have chronic kidney disease.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue. This isn’t charmin! No wonder I don’t feel as clean. Besides, I wouldn’t want you to be all lonely out there. I think I need to be right by your side, so you won’t be running home anytime soon. I’ll be right there to remind remind you that there’s no turning back now.

[ Jeremy huffing ]

Phyllis: Is that good news?

Jeremy: Yep. And the timing couldn’t be better. It’s an old colleague of mine. He’s helping me with my offshore accounts. I’ve arranged to send half of your money to the island.

Phyllis: Wait a second. Wait. You’re– you’re sending half of my money to your offshore account? I mean, why would you do something like that? You’re just implicating yourself. Diane hasn’t even been found guilty.

Jeremy: [ Scoffs ] Look, diane is still in jail. There’s no one that’s gonna be tracking me.

Phyllis: Yeah, but if you disappear, it makes you culpable and then the police are on your tail, and then that brings you to me and this all blows up in our face.

Jeremy: Hm. Maybe you’re right. I’ll stay here until she’s convicted and then when it’s safe, I’ll come join you.

Phyllis: You’ll join me.

Jeremy: Oh, yeah. We make a great team. There’s no reason to break things up when we have endless possibilities.

Victor: Please have a seat, son.

Adam: All right. I’m listening. What more is there to be said between us, dad?

Victor: I really am sorry you feel that way.

Adam: I’m just– I’m not sure that this conversation is necessary.

Victor: I hope you will take my advice in the spirit in which it is given.

Adam: Go on.

Victor: I think you’re making a terrible mistake.

Adam: You’re gonna need to be a little more specific.

Victor: I’m talking about sally spectra.

Adam: Ah, I see. And what did she do now?

Victor: Are you aware that she’s involved with your brother and they’re trying to make it work out? Son, you need to come to terms with that and move on. Pining over this woman will give you nothing but heartache and disappointment.

Sally: Then I saw mariah and tessa and sharon with baby aria and, oh, she’s just sweet. I couldn’t take my eyes off them. And then adam got caught up in the moment too and god, aria is just such a cutie. I felt like I was witnessing this, like, perfect little miracle. I’m sorry. Am I talking too much?

Nick: No. I do wanna hear about aria, just maybe not right now.

Sally: I understand. Are you okay?

Nick: [ Chuckles ] It’s just been a brutal day. I’m really wiped out.

Phyllis: Okay, don’t you think doing something like this would complicate things?

Jeremy: That’s what we both thrive on, right? Complications. That’s another thing we have in common.

Phyllis: Let’s just focus on taking diane down.

Jeremy: Okay. Come on, phyllis. You didn’t think doing business with me would cost you something? We are husband and wife now. You belong to me. Hey! Hey! Where the hell do you think you’re going? I told myself I was ok with my moderate

Victor: You’re wasting your time pining away over a woman. You’re flirting with your ex-girlfriend who’s involved with your brother.

Adam: Don’t you think I know that? What’s your point?

Victor: My point is mccall unlimited is waiting for you. That’s a much better opportunity.

Adam: Okay, stop. I don’t need you to tell me what my better opportunities are. Why can’t you understand? Sally and I, we’re bounded for life.

Victor: Son, I thought you were a little bit more mature than that. You sound like a teenager whose love struck. Come to your senses, son.

Adam: You really– you don’t know, do you? Looks like you’ve been left out of the loop, dad. Sally’s having my baby and I’m still in love with her.

Sally: I’m sorry for going on and on when you’ve had such a horrible day. I’m– I’m sure the memorial was heartbreaking.

Nick: Yeah. And on top of that, summer’s mother-in-law was just arrested for killing phyllis, which makes the pain that much worse. There isn’t anything I can do about it. Then, there’s my sister.

Sally: Victoria?

Nick: Yes.

Sally: What’s going on with her?

Nick: Vic is setting herself up for a boatload of trouble. I can see it coming. I’ve warned her, but she will not listen to me.

Sally: That sounds like a lot of weight to carry around. Look, you always look after me. Let me look after you for once.

Nick: Well, I appreciate the offer, but don’t you know looking after you is like my favorite thing to do in this world? Being with you right now is exactly what I need.

Jack: Christine, please apologize to your assistant for me. I maybe got too aggressive in trying to find out where I could locate you.

Christine: Jack, I really don’t think it’s wise for us to be speaking right now.

Jack: I understand. I just want some advice.

[ Christine grunts softly ]

Christine: If this is about the case–

Jack: No, it is not– at least not the way you think. I’m in a bit of a loss right now. I was hoping that perhaps you could recommend a good defense attorney. I’ve been making a few phone calls and I wanna get the very best. I wanna do everything I can to help diane.

Christine: I’m sure.

Jack: Well, some of the big name attorneys don’t wanna represent a woman who deceived the whole town and faked her own death. I thought maybe by this point I would know something to tell them about the case against her as they could be good candidates. The evidence that you–

Christine: I understand, okay? I– I understand. That will all come out in discovery. Jack, honestly, I want to help you, but my hands are tied. I am bound by the law and my own personal code of ethics. I know you understand. This is nothing personal.

Jack: Yeah, of course.

Christine: And I do wish you luck in finding an attorney for diane.

Summer: I know that you’re doing everything you can to find out exactly what happened that night. I just… I don’t want you to get distracted trying to look for evidence against stark. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure that that man took advantage of my mom. I mean, clearly, he manipulated her into marrying him, but diane is the reason my mom is dead.

Chance: Summer, you know I can’t talk about the investigation and I don’t want you to get involved. No more stunts. Don’t try to pull anything else like you did at the memorial service trying to coax a reaction out of diane. That was risky enough.

Summer: I know. It’s just all that I think about. I mean, my mom collapsed right there. Right, right there. It’s an image that I’m gonna have to live with for the rest of my life.

Chance: I hate seeing you like this. I really do. Let me drive you home.

Kyle: I think you’ve done enough for now.

Phyllis: I mean it. Let me out, jeremy.

Jeremy: No, I don’t think so.

Phyllis: You’re gonna keep me in here?

Jeremy: If I have to. You didn’t change your mind, did you? It was all an act. You’re going back into town for the kids, aren’t you?

Phyllis: You can’t stop me from doing that.

Jeremy: Oh, I think I can. And I can make this all stop, but I will put you in a shallow grave if I have to.

Phyllis: You’re bluffing. You’re not going back to prison.

Jeremy: [ Laughs ] You don’t get it, do you? You’re already dead. No one’s gonna look for your body. Killing you is a victimless crime.

Phyllis: What are you doing? What are you doing? You don’t have to do that.

Jeremy: You leave me no choice.

Phyllis: Please, jeremy. Please. Oh, my god. Please, no. Oh, my god! No!

(Cheery music) – they get it.

Nick: You know what? Enough talk with all this loss and sad stuff. Let’s talk about something a lot more fun.

Sally: That sounds like a great idea.

Nick: I cannot wait to go to your doctor’s appointment with you. I get to be right by your side when we find out if you’re gonna have a little scrapper or a beautiful little princess.

Sally: Yes, it is going to be very exciting, but I have some news to break.

Nick: Okay. What is it?

Sally: I’m not sure if you’re gonna like it.

Nick: Oof. Really? All right. I’m listening.

Sally: Look, you know, I am so excited for you to be there tomorrow and– and you know to look out for me like you always do.

Nick: I wouldn’t miss it for anything in this world.

Sally: Well, it’s not just gonna be the two of us at the appointment tomorrow. I invited adam to join us.

[ Sally sighing ]

Victor: This is unexpected. Are you sure sally spectra is telling the truth?

Adam: What do you mean?

Victor: It’s not some drama she created, like a supposedly fatal illness while she was in los angeles?

Adam: No, dad. I assure you, this is legit.

Victor: Why has she not told your brother about this?

Adam: She has told nicholas about this. He knows.

Victor: Man, oh man, oh man, oh man. What the hell are you two doing? I don’t get any of this.

Adam: There was a paternity test. I’m sure nick wishes he was the father, but I won out.

Victor: You think you won out? You think this is a victory?

Adam: I think that you should start speaking more kindly about your next grandchild.

Victor: You are involved with a woman that is now involved with your brother. This pisses me off!

Adam: I don’t know why.

Victor: Don’t you understand any of this? What has gotten into you? You should be working. You should have purpose in your life, a direction in your life, instead of pining away over a woman that is now with your brother. What the hell are you thinking?

Adam: You just, you don’t get it, do you?

Victor: No, I don’t!

Adam: Connor and my new son or daughter, your grandchild, that is my purpose. That is my sense of direction.

[ Victor exhaling ]

Kyle: You okay? When you weren’t at home, I had a feeling you might be here.

Summer: You didn’t have to track me down.

Kyle: Yeah, I did. I was worried about you.

Chance: It’s probably a good idea to get her home.

Kyle: Look, I just came from visiting my mother in jail. She’s in there alone and suffering because of you and the rest of your police force. You are harassing her and falsely accusing her of a crime she never would’ve committed in a million years. Meanwhile, the most obvious suspect, jeremy stark, he’s still out there free as a bird.

Chance: I have evidence that says otherwise.

Kyle: Oh, what evidence?

Chance: You’ll see.

Kyle: I’m warning you, chance. Don’t fill summer’s head with your crazy baseless theories. You have nothing but trumped-up planted evidence. These accusations against my mother are not true. She is not some cold-blooded killer.

Summer: Kyle, just stop. Nobody is filling my head with anything.

Kyle: Okay, but chance is making his job to prove to people my mom is guilty.

Summer: You know, I don’t wanna get into this with you right now. Let’s just go home, please.

Kyle: Of course. Of course. This is borderline harassment. You already put my mom in jail, stay away from my wife or I will find a way to make you pay, detective.

Jack: Christine, we have known each other for a long time now. I’m not asking that much. I just need to know what we’re dealing with. Is there anything you can tell me? Anything at all?

Christine: Jack, good night and good luck.

[ Jack sighing ]

Jack: Hey, I’m glad you picked up. I appreciate you asking. Things are a little more urgent now than they were the last time we spoke. It appears you are diane’s last chance. Is there anything I can do to change your mind? She needs you. My family needs you, michael.

[ Kissing ]

[ Victoria sighs ]

Sharon: Hi!

Mariah: Hi.

Sharon: Oh, my gosh. You’re home.

Mariah: Oh, it’s good to see you, too.

Sharon: Oh, you’re here at last and you brought your own baby girl home.

Mariah: I can’t wait for you to meet her. I mean, all the video chats in the world don’t compare to holding that little nugget in your arms. You’re gonna love her.

Sharon: [ Sighs ] From the moment she came into this world and became a part of our family, I have loved her with my whole heart.

Mariah: Oh.

[ Both giggling ]

Nick: Summer, can I get you anything? You want something to eat?

Summer: No, thanks. Just… having you here is nice.

Nick: Of course. I’ll be here as long as you need me.

Summer: I appreciate that. Especially since I don’t know when I’m gonna hear from kyle.

Nick: I’m sure he will get in touch soon.

Summer: Maybe. He’s probably still at the police station with diane. I guess she’s his top priority now.

Kyle: It’s not true. You have to know that.

Jack: Hey, christine. Thank you for agreeing to see me so soon.

Christine: Yeah, of course. And I understand the urgency. You must be reeling after everything that’s happened. The memorial for phyllis, diane being arrested for her murder. How are you holding up?

Jack: How I’m doing is the least of my worries. Right now, I am trying to do everything I can to help diane. Arresting her was a gross miscarriage of justice. There is no way she is guilty of trying to harm phyllis.

Christine: ‘Kay, look, I’m sorry, as district attorney, I can’t discuss an open investigation.

Jack: Look, I’m glad to hear that it’s open, because I think the person you need to stay laser focused on investigating is jeremy stark.

Christine: Well, I assure you we’re following up on every lead, but right now they all lead back to your fiancé.

Jack: What about stark? He has more motive than anyone else.

Christine: Where’s the evidence?

Jack: Where’s the evidence against diane? You can’t just jump to the conclusion that she’s some kind of murderer. You know diane. You honestly think she’s capable of killing someone?

[ Christine sighs ]

[ Phyllis sighs ]

Phyllis: Oh… I’m sorry. Oh, my god, what have I done? For bathroom odors that linger.

Christine: Thank you. I’m afraid it’s not as simple as that. There are some irrefutable facts.

Jack: I don’t see how that is possible. I know she is not guilty regardless of what chance or anybody at gcpd claim they have on her.

Christine: The judge never would’ve signed off on an arrest warrant if the evidence wasn’t solid.

Jack: You don’t know what they got their hands on, but they’re soon gonna realize it won’t hold up. Yes, diane and phyllis were in a constant state of conflict, right up to the night that they fought and phyllis died. But diane didn’t murder her. That’s outrageous. Do you know what they brought to the judge?

Christine: Look, jack. I take my professional and ethical boundaries very seriously. If you expect me to reveal some information about this case because of our friendship, I can’T. It would be totally inappropriate.

Jack: I’m sorry. I’m not trying to take advantage. I’m not. I am scared, and I am outraged. She does not belong behind bars. All I’m asking is that you try to slow this thing down and not rush to judgment.

Christine: I assure you, it wasn’t rushed or without very strong evidence. This arrest was made on strong investigative work.

Jack: [ Sighs ] Then you have to focus on stark again. You have to. And somehow get diane out of that cell.

Christine: Okay. Jack, I– I understand how hard this is for you and your family, especially at a time like this. But I’m telling you honestly, there’s really nothing I can do except follow protocol.

Jack: Protocol? There is a murderer running scot-free out there, while my fiancé is sitting in a jail cell on trumped up charges. Did it ever occur to you, maybe he set her up? Whatever this so-called evidence your people have is–

Christine: It is very real evidence. So much so that it incriminated, diane to be arrested, okay?

[ Sighs ] I’m gonna promise you this. This case is not over. And yes, I will look into the loose ends. However, until something turns up to exonerate diane or points to some other person, that is really all I can offer you right now.

Summer: Kyle, I– I didn’t expect you to be home so soon. But I’m glad that you’re here.

Kyle: I need to be with you and harrison. I thought you might need me to.

Nick: Well, it’s been a long, exhausting day. You both need to get some rest.

Summer: How– how did things go at the police station?

Kyle: Dad and I were there while my mom was being processed, but they wouldn’t allow us to talk to her. Chance did allow her to tell us in passing and she was okay. Not that I believed her. She looks shell-shocked and traumatized. I mean, they have to know she didn’t do this.

Nick: I’m sure the police will get to the bottom of what happened. And I know jack will do everything he can to help your mother.

Kyle: Yeah, he’s meeting with christine as we speak. Hopefully, he can convince her to release her as soon as possible. In any case, thank you for bringing summer home.

Nick: Of course. All right, I’mma leave you two alone. I’m a phone call away. You need anything, I don’t care what it is, call me and I’ll be here.

Summer: Thanks, dad.

[ Door closes ]

Sharon: Where are tessa and the baby? You know I’m dying to see her.

Mariah: Oh. You thought you were gonna see the baby tonight? At this hour? No, no, no. I sent tessa and the baby to the tack house. That’s okay, right?

Mariah: It’s the cheeks that get me.

Tessa: The cheeks, I know.

Mariah: The cheeks, they’re just so round. There are times, I wonder…

[ Kissing ]

Victoria: Oh, yes. Oh.

Nick: Hey, audra.

Audra: Nick. Um, I heard about your loss. Please accept my condolences.

Nick: Thanks.

Audra: You know, I’m surprised to see you here. Wasn’t the service today?

Nick: Yeah, it was. But, uh, there’s always work to be done, and honestly, I could use the distraction.

Audra: Well, if you’re looking for your sister, she’s in her office.

Nick: Oh, yeah? Great. I wasn’t sure she’d be here this late. I do need to speak with her, but I gotta run by my office and I’ll come back and see her. Thanks.

Audra: Yeah. My pleasure, nick.

Sharon: Come here, baby. Oh, my goodness. Oh, my goodness. Look at you. Oh, my sweetie-jo. Look at you.

[ Gasps ] I think she smiled at me. Did you see that?

Tessa: Yeah, she definitely did.

Sharon: Ugh. Well, does she– does she cry much? Because she just seems so peaceful here. Like, she didn’t even make a fuss when she came into my arms.

Tessa: Aw.

Adam: [ Laughs softly] It’s pretty cool, isn’t it?

Sally: [ Sighs ] Yeah. I mean, they look like their world just got a million times more wonderful.

Adam: Hmm. There’s nothing better than a baby. There’s just something about their presence that fills your heart in a way that you can’t even imagine. Just this little life with endless potential. Your world is suddenly brand new because now they’re in it.

Sally: Well, look at you getting all poetic on me.

[ Laughs ]

Adam: I’ve been there. Trust me. It’s– it’s magical. And it won’t be long until you get to experience that for yourself.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Well, why don’t we go in and meet the new baby?

Adam: Hello to the happy new parents.

Sally: Congrats, mamas.

Mariah: Thank you so much.

Tessa: As you can see, we’re over the moon.

Sharon: Her name is aria. Isn’t that a beautiful name?

Adam: That is absolutely fitting. This kid is gonna get the best lullabies ever.

Mariah: [ Laughs ] True.

Sally: Can I take a peek?

Mariah: Yeah, of course. Go ahead.

Tessa: Oh, yeah, we’re all about sharing the joy. I mean, what else is a baby for?

Sally: Oh, my gosh. Hi. Oh, my god. Look at those little fingers and her precious cheeks.

Mariah: Mm-hmm.

Sally: Aw. How does it feel?

Mariah: What?

Sally: Just, you know, being mothers now and knowing that aria is all yours?

Tessa: It’s like this wonderful miracle just happened.

Mariah: It’s like our– our greatest dream came true.

Kyle: We have a lot to talk about. But first, I wanna know how you’re doing? You poured so much of yourself into planning this memorial and now that it’s over–

Summer: To be honest, I’m just… exhausted. You know, I feel like I could sleep for a week, but… it was worth it, you know? The service was lovely. Don’t you think?

Kyle: It was just right. You did a great job. I can’t believe you did all that work on your own. Everyone was grateful for the chance to say goodbye to phyllis.

Summer: Yeah. And I got to say all the things that I needed to say to her. Things that I should have said to her while she was still here.

Kyle: And phyllis would’ve loved it. I hope that’ll bring you comfort in the days ahead.

Summer: Maybe, but I’m still gonna wake up every morning wishing that she were still her. But maybe– maybe I’ll be able to rest a little easier knowing that we honored my mom in a way that she deserved. And I think she was smiling down at us today. And thank you, my wonderful husband.

Kyle: For what?

Summer: Just for standing by me, for being the loving, supportive partner that I’ve needed throughout this whole ordeal. And I– I can’t even imagine what you’re feeling right now. You must have been blindsided by diane’s arrest.

Kyle: Yeah. I– I really didn’t see that coming. I hate to think that she’s all alone and locked up for something she didn’t do. I mean, how can they even think that? She’s not a murderer.

Summer: You really still think that? Even now?

[ Jeremy sighs ]

Jeremy: What happened to you leaving town last night like we planned? It’s so dangerous for you to be within 50 miles of this place. Why are you still here? Dry skin is sensitive skin, too.

Jack: I understand your point of view. I– I respect it. But promise me you’ll hear this much. From the moment diane came back to town, she has wanted nothing more than to reestablish her relationship with her son and get to know her grandson. That is all. Now she has a future with them, and with me. She has a new and burgeoning career. And why would she jeopardize all of that to get back at an old foe? Why would she go to all that work to rebuild her life here in town, only to throw it all away?

Christine: And I see your point. But the evidence indicates she did exactly that.

Jack: Then the evidence is wrong. This leads us back to jeremy stark. He’s a criminal. He set her up.

Christine: Tomorrow is her arraignment. I think you need to be prepared for what could happen. And given diane’s history of disappearing into the wind, there’s a very good chance that she won’t get bail. And there is nothing I can do about that. And if stark is responsible for phyllis’s death, he has done an excellent job of implicating diane and covering his tracks.

Jack: He may be good, he’s not that good. Eventually what he did wrong will come to light. He will be proven guilty.

[ Clattering ]

Phyllis: I changed my mind. I’m allowed to change my mind. People do it all the time.

Jeremy: Yeah. Look, I knew it. You took an insane risk by going to the memorial service.

Phyllis: I had to go.

Jeremy: No, you didn’T.

Phyllis: I did.

Jeremy: No, the only thing you have to do is get the hell outta town.

Phyllis: I had to see how my children feel about me. I had to see.

Jeremy: There you go with the kids again. Okay. Why do you care? They are adults now. They have their own lives and they’re gonna mourn and get right back to their busy lives.

Phyllis: No, they’re not.

Jeremy: Yes, they will.

Phyllis: No, they’re not.

Jeremy: Yes, they will and you know it.

Phyllis: They’re not.

Jeremy: You know it.

Phyllis: Shh. Shh. You didn’t hear the pain and regret that was in their voice. You weren’t there. I can take that away for them.

Jeremy: By showing up and letting them see that you’re alive.

Phyllis: They’ll forgive me.

[ Jeremy scoffs ] I know they will. I know they will.

Kyle: Of course, I believe my mother is innocent. What– are– are– are you saying you don’t?

Summer: Look, kyle. I know how hard it is to accept a reality that you don’t want to believe is real.

Kyle: Because it’s not. I will never stop believing my mother is innocent. The cops got this one wrong. It is tragic and it is disgusting. But jeremy stark is the only one to blame for what happened to phyllis.

Summer: Look, I don’t doubt that jeremy stark played a role in this and hopefully it won’t be long before he’s arrested, too, but I’m not buying that he acted alone. Chance didn’t arrest diane for no reason. Okay? They have a strong case against her.

Kyle: What? You can’t believe that. Whatever dubious evidence they have comes courtesy of stark framing my mother.

Summer: [ Scoffs ] You’re way too close to this. You just can’t see your mother for who she is. But I can. And now the police do, too. Look, I’m sorry, kyle. But I have to believe that diane is the reason my mom is dead.

[ Knock on door ]

Nick: Vic, you in there?

[ Victoria groans ]

[ Handle creaking ]

[ Nate hissing ]

Victoria: Uh, hey, nick. I’m sorry, I didn’t realize I had the door locked. Uh, nate and I were just having a drink. I imagine you could use one after the day you had.

Nate: Yes, thanks.

Victoria: Sure.

[ Nick clearing throat ]

[ Victoria clearing throat ]

Nate: Uh, nick, my, uh, sincere condolences. Losing phyllis is a huge loss to you and her family. She’ll be missed, uh, by the whole city, really. Um, I’m sure you two need some time to talk. Uh, I’ll check in with you later, victoria.

Victoria: Oh, yeah. There you go. So, how was the memorial service? I imagine it was especially hard for daniel and summer.

Nick: I don’t wanna talk about that right now.

Victoria: Okay. What do you want to talk about?

Nick: What are you thinking?

Victoria: [ Scoffs ] What? I don’t understand what you mean.

Nick: Stop. Just stop it. You know what I’m talking about. You and nate. Whatever was happening in this office. (Lucky) uh-oh the magic’s disappearing!

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue. (Vo) get them to open up.

[ Chatter and laughter ]

Elena: Is that who I think it is?

Tessa: Elena, meet our daughter, aria.

Sharon: Isn’t she darling?

Mariah: You know, we didn’t plan a welcome home party for her, but it looks like we don’t have to. She’s getting to meet everyone.

Elena: Oh, yes. Welcome home is right. We have all been dying to meet you, baby aria. Look how perfect you are. And look at your mommies. You guys are all glowing.

Mariah: Aw.

Elena: Oh, my gosh. I know how much you both wanted to be a family and now look at you.

Tessa: Thanks, elena. I don’t think I could have done it without you. I mean, all your help and advice before the baby was born. I was just so worried about being unprepared.

[ Elena laughing ] But you totally calmed my nerves. You were so positive and reassuring. You were right, so far. And now aria is here and there’s just nothing that I wouldn’t do for her or for my family.

Elena: That’s because the three of you were meant to be together.

Elena: Oh, hug it out.

Tessa: Yeah, we did.

Nick: I know I’m not the most observant guy in the world, but even I could see the smudge of lipstick on nate’s neck. What about the button you missed there? And what in the hell is going on with your hair? Is that the way you normally wear it?

Nick: [ Sighs ] Yes. Sorry. But this could be more of the same, you know?

Victoria: I’m not interested in your opinions or your judgment. I’m just not. I– I… you yourself had a relationship with the ceo of newman media, remember? And you– you firmly told me to stay out of it.

Keep my private life private. Do you understand, nicholas? Now, if that’s everything, I– I have some things that I need to finish.

Nick: Start by brushing your hair.

Kyle: I get how this must look to you. I understand how desperate you must be for answers. But I know my mother. She isn’t capable of poisoning someone just to get them out of the way.

Summer: My mom is not just “someone.” Their hatred for each other goes back decades. As does their competition over jack.

Kyle: Oh, I know. I remember the story about the pool house. Dad had to have it rebuilt after my mom burned it down.

Summer: And she did it so that it looked like my mom tried to kill her. She wasn’t arrested or convicted back then, but everybody knew what happened.

Kyle: That really doesn’t matter. She’s not that person anymore. She has worked very hard to try to prove that to us, ever since she returned.

Summer: Our moms bring out the worst in each other. It’s obvious that some things never change. Or you know what? Maybe– maybe they actually do because this time it was way worse. Your mom was pushed past her limit, and she snapped.

Kyle: Oh, wait a minute. She didn’t–

Summer: No, kyle. Just listen to me. Okay? Hear me out. I’m not trying to make excuses for my mom’s behavior. God knows that I wish that she had gotten a grip on herself and stopped her obsession. Maybe then she would still be alive today. But she didn’T. She was gonna keep on pushing diane and undermining her at every turn, including in her relationship with jack, and diane knew it. She was done with my mom.

Kyle: But not to the point of trying to poison her.

Summer: No, it all came to a head the night of the gala, when they had that crazy fight. Diane said that she wanted to strangle my mom to death.

Kyle: Oh, that was a figure of speech. She didn’t mean it literally.

Summer: She could’ve easily poisoned her right after that. The last words that my mom said to me was that she needed to protect and defend herself against diane. She knew that diane would do anything to make her suffer. And even though she knew the threat that your mom posed to her, she wouldn’t stop. She kept on pushing and aggravating her. It’s just– it is so clear to me what happened. And kyle, I know that it is painful, but you need to open your eyes. There are times, I wonder…

Jeremy: Don’t you think for a second that you can go back. Oh, yeah, they’re shedding tears now. But what do you think will happen when they figure out that you faked the whole thing?

Phyllis: They’ll forgive me. Diane did it. They forgave her. She let her kid think that she was dead for years and years. Trust me, it’ll be fine. It’s only been a couple days.

Jeremy: You seem to be forgetting the point in all this. We put this in motion so we could see diane rot in prison. Meanwhile, you will be off someplace being a whole new person with not a care in the world.

Phyllis: How could I have not a care in the world, jeremy? When there are people out there that I love so much, who are in so much pain?

Jeremy: You seem to be ignoring the fact that we’re in this together. You made a commitment and I’m not about to let you blow everything up over some stupid sentiment.

Phyllis: My kids are not some stupid sentiment.

Jeremy: I mean, revealing your involvement would be revealing my involvement. Okay? And I can’t let that happen. So, if you’re having second thoughts, I suggest you get them out of that pretty little head of yours, before something happens to that pretty little head.

Phyllis: You think you scare me? Is that what you think? That I’m scared of you? You think you can give me orders and tell me what to do? You have no idea who you’re dealing with.

Kyle: All right. All right. I have heard you out. Now you have to listen to me. I swear my mother didn’t do this. I know that nothing can convince you of that right now. But the reality is, we don’t know what evidence the police have. I have no idea how strong their case really is or what we’re actually facing here. So, I am asking you to just let this play out. You will see my mother will be cleared and released.

Summer: Why are you so sure?

Kyle: Because I know there’s no way she could have done this. She didn’t like phyllis, everyone knew that. But she wouldn’t kill her. She isn’t capable. And after everything harrison has been through, I don’t want him to hear these horrible things about his deedee. So, I am asking you, summer, can you please keep an open mind for now? Can you do that for me?

Summer: For harrison’s sake, I will do whatever I can to protect him from the news. But you and I need to agree on a cover story for why diane is gone.

Kyle: I’m hoping it won’t be more than this one night. Her arraignment’s in the morning. I’m hoping that she will get released on bail.

Summer: That’s wishful thinking, don’t you think? The fact is, we don’t know how long it’s gonna be before diane comes back, if ever.

Nick: I thought I might find you here.

Nate: Why is that?

Nick: Figured you’d wanna take some time, you know, figure out what you want to say to elena before you go home.

Nate: I’m not sure I know what you’re talking about, nick.

Nick: See, I already played this game with victoria. I’m not doing it again. So, here’s the deal. I don’t know if it’s, uh, just a fling or if it’s been going on for a while.

Nate: Nick, it is not like that.

Nick: I don’t care. I don’t care, nate. I just need to make sure there’s no agenda here.

Nate: Nothing is going on, other than I have everything I could hope for heading newman media. Things couldn’t be better.

Nick: Oh, I bet. Here’s my concern. You had, uh, a tremendous position at chancellor-winters, but it wasn’t enough for you. You wanted more. So, what did you do? You turned your back on your family for your own selfish gain. And that tells me everything I need to know about you.

Nate: It wasn’t that simple.

Nick: Really? Well, maybe you can explain it to me someday. But as far as I’m concerned, your credibility is shot.

Nate: Wow. Well, if you came here to put me on some kind of notice, fine. Message received. But even though I work for newman media, my personal time is my own business.

Nick: Sure, it is. Until it’s my business.

Elena: Hey. Nick. Long time, no see. What are you guys talking about?

[ Nick clears throat ] (Vo) is she tired? Sad? Bored?

Tessa: Oh, I can’t get over how adorable she is.

Sharon: Ugh, her sweet little face. It’s like all is right in her own little world. Mariah, is everything okay?

Mariah: Yeah, I just– I still can’t believe the news about phyllis. We were about to take off on our flight and nick called us and told us what happened. I just can’t believe that she’s gone, and in such a terrible way.

Sharon: All the people she cared about, they’re all in so much pain right now.

Mariah: It’s why it feels so weird to be happy right now.

Sharon: Hey. You have nothing to feel guilty about and none of those people would want you to feel that way. They want you to relish all the happiness of the moment that you’ve been given. I mean, here you are home with your new baby and tessa, starting a new chapter in your life. And it’s a really special time. It goes by very fast.

Tessa: Aw.

Sharon: Aw, see, aria agrees. She’s already a very wise little girl.

Sally: That is the most precious little girl. It’s her big eyes and her plump little cheeks. I just wanna eat her up.

[ Both chuckling ]

Adam: Sounds like you’re falling in love with the idea of having a daughter.

Sally: Well, a daughter or a son. Either one would be amazing.

Adam: Well, we’re gonna find out soon enough, aren’t we? Thank you, again, for asking me to go with you to your appointment. A little daughter would be nice.

Sally: Finding out is gonna make this all the more real, isn’t it? It is crazy to think in a matter of months, this growing baby is just gonna be out in the world, hanging out in a car seat, just as adorable as little aria.

Adam: I cannot wait.

Nate: Unfortunately, nick didn’t drop in for a friendly visit.

Elena: Oh. What’s going on?

Nate: He seems to share your belief that I’m being consumed by power. And quite frankly, I’m tired of hearing it, on all fronts.

Nick: Well, the truth often hurts. And it gets old when you don’t want to admit it. All right. With that, I will say good night. Elena, it’s nice seeing you. You look beautiful. Nate’s a very lucky guy.

Elena: You wanna tell me what that’s about?

[ Door opening ]

Kyle: Hey, how was your meeting with christine? Any progress?

Jack: Uh, not much, I’m afraid. We’ll have to wait for the arraignment and hope for the best. How’s summer?

Kyle: She’s upstairs. But not in a good way, I’m sorry to say.

Jack: Wait, how so?

Kyle: She is locked into this belief about mom. She truly believes mom is to blame for phyllis’ death. Dad, I– I don’t know how I am going to handle this. I feel like I am caught between my wife and my mother. They both need my support, but they’re on complete opposite sides of the problem. How do I help without feeling disloyal?

Jack: No, you are definitely in a tough spot.

Kyle: Somehow, I have to convince my wife that my mother did not kill phyllis. Not only because I know for certain she is innocent, but because my marriage is at stake, dad. If I can’t accomplish that, I– how does my marriage survive?

Jack: Wait. Of course, you– don’t talk like that. We’ll– we will get her home. We will clear diane’s name. We will put all of this behind us.

Kyle: See, that’s the thing. Summer doubted mom will be freed anytime soon.

Jack: Yeah, christine said something like that, too.

Kyle: Something’s got to come to light to set the record straight, right? Mom has to come home soon.

Jack: I promise you, kyle, I am going to do everything in my power to prove diane’s innocence. We will do it together.

Kyle: Okay. Then we have to start by finding the truth.

Jack: That’s right. And we will not give up until we uncover it.

Phyllis: Let me tell you something. I am not an amateur and I’m not easily manipulated. If I have a problem with somebody, they get it. Let me tell you something else. I usually get away with it. Also, I’ve spent very, very little time behind bars, stark. So, who’s a smart one now? Okay? And if you’re half as smart as you say you are, you will get out of my way.

Jeremy: Okay. Okay. Let me tell you something. Huh? I’m not going back to prison. Do you understand me? You’re not gonna blow this for me. So, you’re going to do what you’re supposed to do. Go it?

Phyllis: Did you hear me? I don’t take orders from anyone. I’m not taking orders from you.

Jeremy: Wait a second. Is this some sort of a game for you?

Phyllis: It’s not my game. It is my life.

Jeremy: No. Wrong. You have no life. You are dead. Dead to the world. And you better keep it that way. So help me god, I will kill you myself. You got it?

Announcer: Next week on the young and the restless.

Tucker: I’m gonna sell my company and I’m gonna leave this town.

Ashley: Okay. So, now you’re threatening me.

Adam: Looks like you’ve, uh, been left out of the loop, dad. Sally’s having my baby and I’m still in love with her.

Michael: Last night I got a call from jack, asking me to represent diane.

Nikki: Oh, my god. Michael. You can’t defend the woman who killed one of your best friends.
