Billy has had insomnia for three nights and Amanda, Jack, and Lily think that he has unresolved issues that he needs to put to rest about his halted plan to get revenge on Adam and Victor. Lauren has a talk with Jack about how worried she is about Michael now that he is working for Victor.

Abby, Chance, and Devon wait anxiously for the doctor to call with news about what is wrong with Dominic and Abby blames herself for his illness. Faith: Put that fabric over there. It has to look boho-chic.

Moses: Okay, I don’t even know what that means. How am I supposed to know if I’m doing it right?

Faith: When our guests of honor walk through those doors, we want them to feel this entire space has transformed into an exotic, warm, romantic locale. Flowers, candles, garland, fabric.

Moses: Okay, so, like, at any minute, a whole bunch of fairies and trolls could walk in and feel at home. Lots of flora and fauna, and twinkles, but with a hint of romance.

Faith: That’s strangely specific, but yep, sure.

Moses: Okay, I think I’ve got it.

Noah: Wow. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think…

Moses: You’d walked into an oasis in Ireland decorated by leprechauns?

Noah: Yeah, yeah, exactly.

Moses: Cool. Alright, I think my work here is done.

Faith: No, no, no, no, it isn’t. More candles on the patio.

Moses: Okay.

Sally: Hey. I know you.

Adam: How’s it going?

Sally: Great. Yeah. This early-retirement thing is the best. I have been thinking about taking up snowboarding, seeing how it’s the dead of winter and all, just for a couple of quick lessons, and then, Aspen, here i come.

Adam: I meant… how are things really going?

Sally: [ Sighs ] The truth?

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Sally: I am freaked out about my future.

***************

Sally: [ Sighs ] I came to this town to start over from Beverly Hills, one of the most glamorous spots on Earth, to Genoa City, Wisconsin. And I was willing to put in the work to prove myself. I even took a job as Lauren’s gopher when I had already run my own fashion house. But I did it with a smile on my face, and I proved myself again and again. And for what? It has been one dead end after another.

Adam: Oh, well, you’re leaving out the part — through no fault of your own.

Sally: Okay. Maybe I was responsible for a few of those roadblocks, but not this one. I am the one that put Newman Fashion on the map with Victoria’s wedding dress. A couple months ago, I was the creative genius that designed the gown that everyone was clamoring for. And now I am still a genius, but I am I out of a job and I am out in the cold. Literally, I can’t even jump in the car and drive to the beach to try and make myself feel better.

Adam: Well, maybe not. But you could come to Society, belly up to the bar with me, and grab a bite.

Sally: I would like that. That’s the best offer I’ve had all day. And, yes, before you say anything, it’s the only offer.

Adam: [ Clears throat ] Well, the day is not over.

Billy: So what’s your day look like?

Lily: Um, I have back-to-back interviews followed by back-to-back meetings, and then somewhere in between all of that I have to figure out a way to go see Devon.

Billy: Alright, should we synchronize our watches?

Lily: Uh, no, he’ll text me when he signs the custody papers, and then I’ll text you.

[ Telephone rings ] Hey, Lori. What do you have for me? Oh, already? Uh…okay. I have the interview with the reporter from new York, so I’ll come find you when I’m done in your office.

Billy: You’re gonna be disappointed ’cause I’m not gonna be in there.

Lily: So, where are you gonna be?

Billy: I have some errands to do, and then there’s something else I need to take care of.

Lily: Like what?

Billy: You’ll find out soon enough.

Lily: Okay, bye.

[ Clears throat ] Hi, this is Lily winters

Nick: Hey. I was hoping to find the manager of this place and throw some business her way.

Phyllis: Oh, okay. What do you need?

Nick: New Hope has some big meetings coming up with some donors, and I thought it’d be nice to have a place that would handle the crowd, you know, something that would make them feel very comfortable about digging deep into their pockets and help keep us funded.

Phyllis: Yeah, for sure. Well, I’d love to help you.

Nick: Great. Uh…is everything alright?

Jack: You know what? I’ll check in with you later. See ya.

Nick: Yeah. I interrupt something?

Phyllis: No, not at all. I actually need to talk to you about something.

Nick: Alright. Is it about New Hope?

Phyllis: No, it’s about me. I’m considering moving to Milan and working with Summer

Sharon: You guys, this looks fantastic. Mariah and tessa are gonna love it.

Faith: I really hope so. I think I caught their vibe.

Sharon: No one could have done it any better.

Faith: Noah, I need your artistic eye.

Noah: What’s up?

Faith: This is our pice de

rsistance.

Noah: Uh, what — what is this, exactly?

Faith: These are some of tessa’s best lyrics, and they’re all about mariah. Incredibly romantic, right? And we thought that the guests could sign it, along with, i don’t know, best wishes, a love note to them, something from the heart. And over here is the album cover. You did an amazing job, by the way. Get used to hearing that for years to come.

Noah: Thank you. So what did you need my eyes for?

Faith: Should we keep the displays where they are or switch them around or even move them to a different spot?

Noah: No, no, looks pretty great to me.

Faith: Yeah, yeah, I think you’re right. You can even be the first to write your heart out before things get hectic.

Noah: Uh, no, thanks. I believe in that old adage — “a picture’s worth 1,000 words.” And I have no idea what to say, but it’ll come to me.

Moses: You could write, “your love makes me speechless” or something like, “may your love last 1,000 years” or — get this — “magical, mystical, like a sorcerer’s spell.”

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Moses: What do you think?

Faith: I think you need to get hooked on a different kind of book series. Okay.

Nick: Noah. Can you help me for a second?

Noah: Yeah. Sorry, guys, duty calls.

Faith: Don’t forget.

Noah: I wish I could. Alright, let’s get to work.

Chance: Oh, wow. Look at you. This is a big night for tessa and mariah, huh?

Abby: Mm-hmm, and for us, too. We haven’t been to a party since your welcome-home gathering.

Chance: Wow, has it been that long?

Abby: Mm-hmm. We were all so excited that you were home, but I know that was a rough night for you.

Chance: Yeah, yeah, that wasn’t easy, but I am glad I had you to lean on.

Abby: Mm, and tonight, we get to trade places.

Chance: What do you mean? Are you worried about seeing devon?

Abby: [ Sighs ] No, now that everything’s settled, I’m not worried about seeing him. It’s just the word is out about our custody agreement, and everyone’s gonna have comments and questions.

Chance: I’ll do what I can do to handle all that, okay? Don’t you worry.

Abby: I know I can count on you. And this little guy, I get to come home to him. Yes, you are gonna have the best time with louise while me and daddy are celebrating aunt tessa and aunt mariah, and if you’re still awake when I get home, i am gonna read you that new bedtime story. Chance?

Chance: Yeah, what’s wrong?

Abby: Does he seem okay to you? I mean, does his breathing seem a little faster than usual?

Chance: Mm. Well, let’s take a look. Buddy, here, let us look at you a little bit. You okay?

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Chance: Feeling okay, guy?

Amanda: Okay, I will send you the paperwork, and all you have to do is sign. I do have to run, but if you need anything else, please give me a call. Okay. Thank you. Bye-bye. Yes. Hello!

Devon: Hey, hey. What’s all this about?

Amanda: Oh, this is called dancing.

Devon: Dancing?

Amanda: Yeah. Feel familiar?

Devon: It does, yeah. We did this on new year’s eve, didn’t we?

Amanda: Yeah, that’s right. You know, dancing is a little more enjoyable when you just relax, let the tension melt away. Focus on your beautiful partner.

Devon: You think I’m tense?

Amanda: Well, your shoulders and your arms are a little uptight. Are you having second thoughts about this engagement party?

Devon: No. No, no.

Amanda: Are you sure?

Devon: I’m not. Yeah, I’m sure. I would never want to miss mariah and tessa’s special night. I know that abby and chance are gonna be there, and I haven’t talked to them since we all signed the custody papers. But I haven’t talked to a lot of people, so I don’t think it’s gonna be awkward.

Amanda: Okay. I tell you what.

Devon: Mm.

Amanda: If anybody asks you any questions, you just send them in my direction, and I will fill them in on as many details as you’re willing to share.

Devon: Well, we don’t have to share any details at all because tonight’s not about me, it’s about mariah and tessa. Last thing I want is the spotlight to be on me and take it away from the happy couple.

Noah: What is all this anyway?

Nick: Look inside and see.

Noah: Tessa’s new album.

Nick: On vinyl, the way god intended it. They’re party favors for the big event. You did a great job, son.

Noah: Yeah, yeah, I’m happy with how it turned out.

Moses: Faith.

Faith: Yeah.

Moses: Uh, they’re here.

Faith: What? No, it’s too early. We’re expecting more people.

Moses: Okay, we can scatter, make the place look filled.

Faith: Okay. I’ll go prep them.

Moses: Good idea.

Faith: Rey?

Rey: Sound system’s ready to go.

Faith: You’re the best. Everyone, may I have your attention, please? Introducing the happiest, most beautiful and talented couple in this half of the universe, soon to be joined in holy matrimony, tessa and mariah. Come in, girls.

[ Applause ]

Mariah: Okay, can we open now?

Faith: Welcome to the most exotic, romantic engagement celebration ever? Okay, now.

Tessa: Oh. Oh, my goodness.

Mariah: You guys did all of this for us.

Sharon: We hope you like it.

Nick: Congratulations.

Mariah: This is just —

Tessa: More than we ever could’ve imagined.

Mariah: Wow, it is almost as beautiful as you are.

Sharon: Aww.

[ Applause ]

Faith: [ Chuckles ] Alright, let’s party!

Nick: Yeah.

Rey: Yeah, let’s do that.

Amanda: You know, I really think things will go pretty smoothly.

Devon: Yeah?

Amanda: Yeah. You know, everything ended amicably. I think everyone will understand. Just take my word for it, okay?

Devon: I do take your word for it. You’ve been level-headed throughout this entire experience. You’re always looking out for me and the baby.

Amanda: Well, that is what a good attorney is supposed to do.

Devon: Mm. No, I actually think it’s a little bit more than that. I saw the way you were looking at dominic the last time he spent the night over here.

Amanda: [ Sighs ]

Devon: And when you went to go check on him when you thought I was asleep.

Amanda: Mm, so you’re spying on me.

Devon: No, I’m just surprised.

Amanda: Yeah, well, me too. I’ve never been that close to a baby before. Never spent any meaningful amount of time with one, until i met dom.

Devon: Mm. And what do you think?

Amanda: I think that he’s a little miracle.

[ Chuckles ] I mean, he’s so smart, and i know exactly what to do to make him smile. And I think he likes me.

Devon: Oh, I know he likes you.

[ Chuckles ]

Amanda: It is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Just the way that he looks at you like you are the most amazing thing, and it makes you want to be that amazing. Is that what it feels like to be a parent?

Devon: I mean, I think so. This is new.

Amanda: Yeah. You know, I never had a mother or a father to love me or to love back when I was little, so this is a whole new world for me, too. But I think I kind of love it. You know, I just, like, keep imagining what this little boy is gonna be like when he grows up, and… I’m sorry, is that weird? Is that okay for me to say?

Devon: Amanda, it’s more than okay.

[ Indistinct conversations ]

Rey: Well, I think you two deserve some champagne.

Tessa: Oh!

Mariah: I think we do, as well.

Rey: Anything for this lovely couple.

Tessa: Anything? I think I’m gonna like this being engaged thing.

Mariah: Well, don’t get too used to it because people will be expecting a wedding eventually.

Rey: And then you get to be newlyweds, and if you’re lucky, that part will last year after year.

Sharon: Can I interest you in a glass of sparkling cider?

Moses: Oh.

Sharon: It’s a great vintage, of course.

Moses: I cannot say no to that.

Faith: I’d love some, too. Thank you.

Tessa: So what was all that out on the patio?

Faith: It’s a backdrop for you and your guests to take the coolest party snapshots.

Moses: With a wide variety of props that acknowledge your many interests.

Mariah: Who did all of this?

Faith: It was a combined effort. So if you want to blame us, we’re both equally responsible. But if you found something next-level adorable and thoughtful, you can point that praise right over to yours truly.

Sharon: I think it’s time for the first picture.

Rey: Ooh.

Tessa: Okay, okay, but as long as you promise that these photos don’t become our, like, wedding announcement pictures or something embarrassing.

Sharon: I promise nothing.

Rey: Alright, alright. Well, who’s gonna do the deed? Noah, you’re the artist in residence.

Moses: Yeah, you designed the album cover, should be easy.

Noah: You know, I’d love to, but I never take pictures after I’ve had champagne, so…

Nick: I’ll do it.

Faith: Oh, no. Do you think you can keep your fingers out of the frame this time? I have a whole album of pictures that my dad took with his finger in the frame, or totally blurry.

Nick: Wow. Okay, you think you can do better?

Faith: Yeah, yeah, with my eyes closed.

Nick: Well, then go for it.

Mariah: Oh, thank goodness.

Nick: Seriously, you too?

Mariah: Yeah. Alright, let’s do this. Let’s go.

Tessa: Okay.

Rey: Cute.

Mariah: Nice.

Tessa: These?

Mariah: Love it.

Faith: Say “always and forever.”

Always and forever.

Nick: Uh, hey, mariah, if you insult me again, no wedding gift.

Rey: What, you mean this one isn’t from you?

Nick: No.

Mariah: Mom?

Sharon: Uh, no, you said no gifts. I followed instructions.

Mariah: Huh.

Abby: How does he seem to you?

Chance: I don’t know, but he’s definitely asleep now.

Abby: Really?

Chance: Yeah, I just patted him a little bit, and he knocked right off.

Abby: Hmm.

Chance: What do you think?

Abby: [ Sighs ] Well, he’s definitely sleeping, but what about his breathing? I mean, does it seem normal to you or different somehow?

Chance: I mean, he looks just fine to me.

Abby: What should we do?

Chance: Finish getting ready, leave him in louise’s capable hands, and go to the engagement party, yeah?

Abby: Yeah, I mean, he is sleeping so soundly.

Chance: I’ll take 100% of the credit for that.

[ Chuckles ] I think this is the first time i got him to go to sleep like that. Hmm. Would you look at that? Somebody’s getting the hang of this parenting thing, huh?

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Mariah: I wonder what it could be.

Tessa: Ooh, panini maker?

Faith: Uh, hers and hers towel sets?

Mariah: Noah, any guesses?

Noah: Nope.

Moses: Could it be a turntable?

Nick: Charcuterie board? I like a good charcuterie.

Sharon: [ Chuckles ] You know what? A cashmere throw would be fantastic.

Mariah: Yeah, I just don’t know what it could be.

Rey: Well, we know it didn’t come from anyone here who’s guessing, so…

Sharon: What do you think we should do, detective? Fingerprints?

Noah: Interrogation.

Rey: I suggest we read the card.

Nick: Such a good cop.

[ Laughter ]

Tessa: Okay, let’s see. Ooh, pretty card.

Mariah: Alright, what does it say?

Tessa: “Wishing you all the love in the universe, from now until the end of time. Best wishes, kevin and chloe.”

Mariah: Aww.

Faith: That is so sweet.

Tessa: Well, that’s not all. “Sorry we can’t make it to the party, but we’re compensating for our absence by breaking the no presents rule.”

Mariah: Got it.

Tessa: Want to do the honors?

Mariah: Yeah, let’s do this together.

Tessa: Okay.

Mariah: Okay.

Rey: What in the world?

Mariah: Wow.

Tessa: Oh, my goodness.

Noah: What is that?

Mariah: This is the most “kevin” gift ever.

Tessa: Is your family crest?

Sharon: No, not at all.

Faith: I was really hoping it was.

Tessa: Uh, so you’re a secret superhero or warrior goddess? I mean, is there anything else i should know before we get married?

Mariah: So, this is a shield from kevin and my favorite book series, “the kingdom beyond.”

Tessa: Oh, my goodness.

Mariah: Yeah, and there’s this really infamous royal wedding in it, and —

Tessa: Oh, okay, that explains this section of the card — “wishing you a far less bloody jousting, but the same high romance as –”

Mariah: Arboreal and rebastian, yes.

Tessa: Oh, yes, of course.

Rey: Wow, wow.

Noah: That is a — that’s really something.

Sharon: It’s quite a gift.

Tessa: Yeah.

Nick: I should’ve got you a shield.

[ Laughter ]

Tessa: I think it’s perfect.

Mariah: You do?

Tessa: Yeah, we’ll hang it up on our wall. It’ll protect us from spiders and enchantments.

Mariah: And I thought that i couldn’t love you more than I do now.

Tessa: [ Laughs ]

Amanda: Wow.

Devon: Look at this. Well, I told you we should’ve brought a gift.

Tessa: Devon, amanda, come in.

Devon: Hey, guys.

Mariah: Hi, guys.

Tessa: Hi!

Amanda: Hi. Wow, well, any gift we would’ve brought would pale in comparison to this very lovely looking shield thing.

Noah: Incredible, isn’t it?

Rey: Hey. Champagne?

Devon: Oh, definitely.

Sharon: Best sound in the world.

Devon: Definitely.

Tessa: Wow, you guys look great.

Mariah: Yeah.

Devon: Look who’s talking. You guys are glowing.

Tessa: Oh, well, we’ve never been happier.

Devon: It’s just gonna keep getting better and better. Wait till your album drops and everybody in the world’s loving it.

Tessa: Ah, well, it still couldn’t touch being engaged to the love of my life.

Mariah: And being surrounded by our friends and our family.

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Amanda: Speaking of friends, are abby and chance no-shows?

Tessa: Uh, I mean, as far as we know, they should be here any minute.

Devon: Good.

Mariah: Okay, so you know me, and if I feel something, I just got to say it, so…how is the shared custody thing going? Lactaid is 100% real milk, just without the lactose.

Rey: Here you are.

Amanda: Thank you so much.

Devon: Thank you very much, rey.

Rey: Enjoy.

Amanda: Thank you.

Devon: So to answer your question, we’re just starting to get our feet wet with the whole custody thing.

Tessa: Have you had a chance to have dom at your place?

Devon: Yeah, we have.

Mariah: And how is abby handling that?

Devon: She’s okay. It’s a little tough for her to say goodbye to him, but I’m doing everything I can to make it easy for her.

Amanda: Yeah, and we did some video calls at bedtime with abby and chance.

Devon: Yeah, yeah, and we’re sticking to his schedule, so know that anytime he’s with us, you can come and visit.

Mariah: I would love that. Thank you.

Tessa: Does that offer also include a plus-one?

Amanda: Of course. You know you’re always welcome.

Mariah: Well, actually, the plus-one would be for somebody a lot younger, smaller.

Amanda: Wait a minute, are you —

Devon: Are you guys —

Mariah: Yeah, we’re hoping to adopt.

Devon: Wow.

Amanda: That’s wonderful.

Devon: Oh, my gosh, we’re gonna have to have little playdates in the future.

Tessa: Oh, definitely, yeah.

Devon: That’s really special you guys are thinking of doing that. You know what adoption means to me. Changed my life in ways I never could have imagined.

Amanda: Every time I think about a child finding their forever home, you know, being part of a real family, it just…

Devon: Oh. Hey, if you guys ever have any questions or, you know, want advice…

Amanda: Yeah, about anything in the process, what the child might be feeling.

Devon: Come to us.

Amanda: Yes, we’ll be honored, truly.

Tessa: Oh, thank you. We will.

Mariah: Uh, mom, have you heard from abby and chance yet?

Sharon: Um, as far as I know, they’re coming. Rey, have you heard from chance?

Rey: Uh, yeah, I spoke to him about him coming back to work tomorrow.

Faith: So how’s it, like, working for dad again?

Noah: The unvarnished truth?

Nick: I’d like to know the answer to that.

Noah: Well, we are helping to change the world, so I kind of love it. You should join us.

Moses: Yeah, new hope becomes new hope and faith. I like the sound of that.

Nick: That business degree you’ve been talking about could come in handy.

Noah: Business degree — what business degree?

Faith: Nothing’s set in stone yet, but I have been looking at some colleges with good business programs.

Noah: Impressive, kid. Better tell aunt victoria to watch her back. There’s a new young mogul in the wings, waiting to sit on grandpa’s throne.

[ Chuckles ]

Devon: I wonder what’s keeping them.

Amanda: Well, you know what it’s like when you have a baby. You think everything’s going according to plan, and then, all of a sudden…

Tessa: Abby, chance, hi!

Mariah: I’m so glad you guys could make it.

Chance: We wouldn’t miss it for the world.

[Doorbell]

Devon: I was afraid you weren’t gonna make it.

Abby: Sorry, yeah, we’re late. It’s just so hard for me to tear myself away from dom.

Devon: I completely understand.

Mariah: So I heard you guys signed the shared custody agreement.

Abby: We did.

Devon: Yeah.

Mariah: Well, that’s great. It’s so nice to see you guys made peace.

Abby: You know what? Tonight is all about you and tessa, so let’s just celebrate that.

[ Chuckles ]

Devon: That’s right, it’s not about us. It’s about the two of you.

Mariah: Well, yeah, but i can’t help but think back to, you know, when we decided to go on this crazy adventure.

Abby: The baby chancellor crew.

Devon: Yeah, that’s when we were planning on creating a little baby we couldn’t even picture yet.

Mariah: And look, I know that not everything went the way that we thought it would, but all of those bumps along the way, i mean, it just made our bond even stronger. And we will always have a connection to each other because of dom — you and abby’s child.

Abby: Our child. And you will forever be included in that, mariah.

[ Chuckles ]

Mariah: Okay, now that the sappy stuff is over with, let’s party.

Devon: Party?

Mariah: Yep.

Abby: Let’s do it.

Mariah: [ Laughs ]

It’s the best time of the day

let the feeling flow my way

birds are singing all their favorite songs

there is nothing more I need

let the music be my lead

everything is right and nothing’s wrong

Dude, get in here.

Come right in

hello, sunshine

where you been?

Sharon: Abby, I’m so glad you made it.

Abby: Me too.

Sharon: I heard that chance is going back to work. Did he end up finding a therapist?

Abby: Actually, he said no to therapy. Uh, he said that returning to the workforce will really help him get back on track. But before we left, I noticed that he was really connecting with dom, so I think things are looking up.

Rainbow to the sky

Rey: Tomorrow’s a big day.

Chance: Yeah. Looking forward to it. It’s about time you had a good cop to your bad cop again.

Rey: Oh, I’m the bad cop? Ha, come on, I’m a sweetheart.

Chance: This guy right here, I’ll tell you what. Tough as nails.

Abby: Oh, well, crime in genoa city doesn’t stand a chance with you teaming up again.

Rey: I need a refill. You two need anything?

Chance: No, I’m okay.

Hello, sunshine

Abby: You know, if tomorrow’s too soon, you can always postpone.

Chance: Oh, no, no, I need this. It’s gonna balance me out. I know it.

Faith: “Wish you happiness and success and a grammy by your first anniversary.” Clever.

Moses: Thanks. You’re up.

Come right in

hello, sunshine

Mariah: Writer’s block?

Where you been?

Mariah: You know, if you can’t think of anything to write, you could just draw something. It’ll be worth a fortune one day.

Noah: Look, I — I know tessa told you some insanity about me still having feelings for her, but…I wanted you to know that there’s nothing to worry about, so, I don’t know, just don’t — don’t hate me.

Mariah: I am not upset with you in the least. The person I’m upset with is myself. I could’ve waited to tell my doctor my heart

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Noah: Why would you be angry with yourself?

Mariah: I haven’t forgotten how tessa and I got together in the first place. The two of you were a couple.

Noah: Mariah, that was a lifetime ago. Okay? We’ve moved on, all of us.

Mariah: I know. But I just wanted to thank you for forgiving me and for understanding. And I love you so much, I can’t help hurting for you.

Noah: You shouldn’t be worrying about me. You should be enjoying the party.

Mariah: Well, too bad. I can’t help it. Tessa is — she’s awesome. I can’t blame anyone for realizing that. I just want you to be okay.

Noah: I am. Okay? I am. And all I want now is for you and tessa to be ecstatically happy forever. Okay? Believe that.

Nick: Hey, stranger. How are you?

Abby: I am good. You know, I am so happy for tessa and mariah. They deserve all this and so much more.

Nick: They do. But I was asking about you.

Abby: So you heard about us sharing custody of dom with devon.

Nick: I did. It was a surprise.

Abby: Yeah, you know, it all happened so fast, and honestly, I just — I couldn’t handle any family interference, for my own sanity.

Nick: Yeah, couldn’t have been an easy decision for you.

Abby: No, it wasn’t, but dominic has more love in his life than he could ever know what to do with.

Nick: He’s a lucky guy. And honestly, if you’re okay with it, then so am I. Just know, abby, if you ever need anything, I’m always here.

Abby: I will remember that.

Sharon: Family and honored friends, we are here tonight to not only celebrate the happy couple, but also the music that was inspired by their love. Now, not everyone has a literal soundtrack to their lives. You would have to be fortunate enough to fall in love with a musical genius to get that.

Tessa: [ Laughs ]

Sharon: So we are among the first to hear tessa’s new album, and without further ado…

Tessa: Well, I am definitely not worthy of that praise.

Mariah: You are worth every bit of it and more.

Tessa: Do you see me now

with the holes in my jeans

Mariah: Does everybody hear that music or is just me? Because I hear music every time I kiss her.

Tessa: Aww. Mm. So cheesy. Marry me?

Mariah: Try and stop me.

[ Both laugh ]

Tessa: Just what I am

it’s not temporary

here nor there

I’m not coming round

it holds me back, the guilt’s a trap

I’ve tried to make it out

but you don’t seem to mind the mess

the wreckage is our house

we have fought to keep this going

our eyes aren’t dry, the light’s still showing

every cloud, you know the rest

baby, there’s no at our best

we have fought keep this going

our eyes aren’t dry, the light’s still showing

every cloud, you know the rest

baby, there’s no at our best

[ Cheers and applause ]

Sharon: Wow!

Rey: Now, that — that was beautiful.

Devon: It was. I think we have a hit on our hands.

Amanda: Said by the hit-maker.

Sharon: Makes me remember when she sang for our wedding.

Rey: Oh.

Tessa: Okay, see, this is what I didn’t want — everyone focusing on the song and the release and not the inspiration behind it.

Mariah: I am so proud of you. We all are.

Sharon: And this is why mariah was the inspiration for tessa’s songs. They have been through so much, and they supported and they loved each other through all of the changes in their lives. They’re really an inspiration to all of us.

Noah: Actually, there’s something I’d like to say, if i could just have the floor for a minute. (Cyclist) why is ice t in a speed walking crew?

Sharon: Why don’t you save your speech for later, after you think about what you want to say?

Noah: Oh, no, no, no, mom. I’ve given this a lot of thought, and it’s — it’s something that I need to do. I will always remember the first time that I heard tessa sing. She opened her mouth and the sound that came forth, it was… it was by far the most beautiful thing that I had ever heard. That’s when I realized how special she is. And I am so glad that she found someone just as special as she is to share her life with. Now, a love like theirs, it doesn’t come around every day. There’s a beauty in its strength. Since the time they’ve gotten together, they have focused on learning about one another, listening better, loving harder, and we all should all be so lucky to find a love like theirs one day. A love that’ll last forever. So, please, everyone, join me in raising a toast to mariah and tessa. Made for each other and proof that dreams do come true.

Devon: Hear, hear.

Sharon: Hear, hear.

Sharon: That was lovely. Now, we just need to find you someone to love like that.

Mariah: Thank you, noah, for those beautiful words. Uh, so the party isn’t over. We just wanted to take the opportunity to thank you all for being with us tonight. You mean so much to us, and you’ve witnessed our past and now you get to bear witness to our future.

Tessa: Yeah, we wouldn’t be where we are today if it wasn’t for the support of each and every one of you.

Mariah: I look around the room, and I see so much love, and I’m just honored to be a part of it.

Tessa: I do especially want to thank mariah’s family for making me feel like I belong, and especially sharon, for teaching me about motherhood and family.

Mariah: And for throwing a kick-ass party. Am I right?

Tessa: Yeah.

Mariah: And now, to my incomparable bride-to-be, I am so excited to walk down the aisle to you.

Tessa: Oh, are we having an aisle?

Mariah: Uh, well, as you can see, there’s still a few details that need to be worked out, but I promise, there will be a wedding at some point.

[ Cheers and applause ]

Tessa: Oh, you’re leaving?

Chance: Yeah, we were just about to say our goodbyes. We didn’t want to take you away from your guests.

Mariah: Well, I’m sorry that you guys have to go, but thank you so much for coming.

Tessa: Yeah, give dom our love.

Abby: We will. Congratulations.

Chance: Congratulations.

Mariah: Night, guys.

Abby: Good night.

Tessa: That’s gonna be us one day. Running home to our little one.

Mariah: [ Chuckles ]

Abby: Louise, hey, we’re home.

Louise: Hi.

Abby: Hey, how is he?

Louise: He’s fine. He slept the whole time you guys were gone.

Abby: Really?

Louise: Yeah, he didn’t even wake up to take his bottle.

Abby: [ Exhales sharply ]

Chance: Well, thank you again, louise. We appreciate it.

Abby: Dominic, hey. Dom. Hey, it’s mommy. Mommy and daddy are here, dom.

Chance: Is he okay?

Abby: Does he look pale to you?

Mariah: Hey.

Tessa: Hi.

Mariah: You guys leaving already?

Devon: We are. We wish we could stay, but she’s got a pile of work at home waiting for her.

Amanda: Yes, another long night for me.

Tessa: Well, thank you for coming by and hanging out with us.

Devon: Absolutely. There’s nowhere else we’d rather be, guys.

Amanda: So thrilled for the two of you and all of the good things that you have coming your way.

Mariah: Well, we are honored to have amazing people to celebrate them with.

[ Chuckles ]

Amanda: Well, congrats again on the album, tessa.

Devon: Oh, yeah. That’s a work of art. It’s gonna blow up when it comes out, you know that.

Tessa: Oh, thank you.

Devon: It’s true. We’ll see you guys soon, alright?

Mariah: Bye, guys.

Tessa: Bye.

Devon: See ya.

Tessa: Bye. Thank you, guys.

Faith: Mariah, can I talk to you for a second?

Tessa: Is everything okay?

Mariah: Yeah, yeah, I’ll just be a minute, that’s all.

Faith: What do you think?

Mariah: Yeah, now is perfect. It’s the perfect time, so let’s do this.

Faith: Okay.

Tessa: Are you gonna tell me what that was all about?

Mariah: Mm…no. I want to make you wait, and listen.

Tessa: Do you see me now

Mariah: Do you want to dance with me?

Tessa: With the holes in my jeans

Mariah: [ Chuckles ]

Tessa: In a momentary wear and tear in the in-between so is this what it feels like?

Mariah: What?

Tessa: Dancing on clouds.

[ Both laugh ]

It’s not temporary

here nor there

Sharon: Maybe it was a bad idea to put noah through this. I think tonight was hard on him.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Yeah. Poor kid. I’m gonna get him out of here.

Sharon: Okay, thanks.

Tessa: But you don’t seem to mind the mess

the wreckage is our house

Nick: Hey. Man, let’s go see a movie or something. Come on.

Noah: Good idea.

Tessa: The light’s still showing

every cloud, you know the rest

baby, there’s no at our best

draw the silver line around us

chase the thread until we find us

Next week on

“the young and the restless”…

Adam: I want you as much as you want me.

Sally: Oh, my god.

Adam: But…

Lily: I kind of saw this coming, and I think I know what it is.

Devon: And what’d the doctor say?

Chance: Well, his physical tests came back pretty normal, but she wanted to take some blood tests just to be sure.

Devon: She wanted to take blood tests for what?

Victoria: So, looking at the deal memo for the newman media acquisition, I just have a few preliminary questions before we start.

Victor: Well, let me ask you, sweetheart — shouldn’t we wait for ashland? Wouldn’t he want to be part of this discussion?

Victoria: Well, he won’t be joining us.

Nikki: Oh?

Victoria: He has an appointment scheduled to monitor his cancer treatment. Well, I mean, naturally, that takes priority. Wouldn’t you agree? Don’t worry. I’ll fill him in on everything that we discuss.

Nikki: Well, I think it’s just wonderful how well the treatment seems to be working. Ashland has made remarkable progress.

Victor: It almost borders on the miraculous, doesn’t it?

Ashland: You know, nate, I’ve never been a religious man, and I — I’ve never really believed in miracles until now. And given the trend of my test results and how good I feel…

Nate: Advances in science and medicine can seem miraculous, especially in cases like this.

Ashland: Nate, I trust you. And I value your opinion as a doctor and as a friend. So please just tell me what’s on your mind.

Lauren: So, after calling him on his long list of excuses, that’s when he plays the supply-chain card, which I found very disingenuous —

[ Scoffs ] Michael?

Michael: Yeah. What?

Lauren: Nate and ashland. You seem very fixated. Care to tell me what that’s about?

> Michael: Alright, pretend you haven’t heard this conversation.

Lauren: Ohh. Okay.

Michael: There are some issues surrounding the clinic behind ashland’s wondrously effective new protocol. They’re registered in peru as a nonprofit, but no one seems to quite know where their funding’s coming from.

Lauren: And this is what you’re working on for victor? His son-in-law’s medical treatment?

Michael: Since ashland’s started to recover, he’s been flexing his muscles around newman/locke. This has victor concerned about how that might affect victoria. And once he heard about the clinic’s curious accounting, well, that was enough to make him very suspicious.

Chelsea: Hey, um, you think i could put vases on the top? Or should I start another box?

Chloe: Well, this is all the fragile stuff, right? So let’s just consolidate.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] Yeah. You know, growing up with anita in all those crummy motel rooms, I never could have imagined a place like this, let alone one day calling it home. And now I’m about to walk out those doors for the last time, say goodbye to everything. I worked so hard to build a life here, and now there’s no trace of it. It’s all just — it’s all just memories.

Chloe: Moves like this bring all that up, all at once.

Chelsea: Yeah. And the fact that I’m a total failure.

Chloe: Stop. Now. You are not a failure. And not to sound like a greeting card, but every ending has its beginning. This is you being resilient. You are taking control of your& life. You’re reinventing yourself. And once you close this chapter, you’re gonna be able to move forward into the future.

Chelsea: You mean a future without adam.

Chloe: [ Sighs ]

Sally: Hey.

Yo you ready?

Chloe: Listen, I am not gonna lecture you about what’s-his-name. He is your past. And it really sucks when life doesn’t work out the way you dreamed. Change is really hard, but you made the choice to move out of the penthouse, which was a brilliant instinct. Do you know why? Because you are taking care of you, and, fyi, that is the exact opposite of being a failure. You are a true bad-ass. And your life is about to become so much better.

Chelsea: Can I get that in writing?

Chloe: [ Laughs ] Look, you don’t need me to validate you. You are taking your power back, and it is a sight to behold. But for everything else, I am your girl.

[ Laughs ] I will always be a friend who will love you and support you, no matter what. We have been through so much together.

Chelsea: I know that you’ll never be a fan of adam’S. I get it. But if I have to defend him every single time you come to our home —

Chloe: “Our home”! Oh, my god! No!

Chelsea: Please stop it. It is my life, and this is my decision, and you have to respect that.

Chloe: Okay. I understand that. But you are a mother now. And it’s not just about you.

Chelsea: You’re right. And I am doing what is best for my son. Connor deserves to have a real family. He deserves to be surrounded by all the people who love him — his mom and his dad and his godmother, who I’m looking at right now if she says yes.

Chloe: Wait, you’re — are you asking me to —

Chelsea: Yeah, I mean, I know it’s a lot to ask, but if anything were to ever happen to adam and me, I would feel so much better knowing that connor was with you. You’ve already done so much for him, chloe.

Chloe: The fact that you even thought of me…

Chelsea: Of course. So, is that a yes?

Chloe: Of cou– yes. Of course I would love to be the godmother of your son. And I promise to love him like my very own.

Chelsea: Oh.

Chloe: Oh, thank you.

Chelsea: You’ve always been such a rock for me.

Chloe: That hasn’t changed. And I know that you’re nervous.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ]

Chloe: It’s totally okay. But I have a feeling that things are going to turn around for us today. I have a really good feeling about it.

Chelsea: [ Chuckles ]

Sally: [ Sighs ] I came to this town to start over from beverly hills, one of the most glamorous spots on earth, to genoa city, wisconsin. And I was willing to put in the work to prove myself. I even took a job as lauren’s gofer when I had already run my own fashion house.

Lauren: [ Whispering ] Why would victor feel the need to investigate the funding source for the clinic? You know, some countries’ laws are not as strict as ours, and maybe in peru a nonprofit doesn’t have to be as transparent.

Michael: Well, there are —

Lauren: And didn’t victor and nikki just give a very elaborate wedding in tuscany? Didn’t they welcome ashland into their family with open arms? When was their wedding? Like a few months ago? And all of a sudden victor is trying to undermine it?

Michael: We’re talking about a man who is constantly playing three-dimensional chess, thinking 10 moves ahead. It’s — it’s what makes working for him so interesting.

Lauren: But that does not answer my question. Ashland’s feeling better. He is too young to retire. Why is him going back into the workforce suddenly cause for suspicion?

Michael: Just call it caution. And given ashland’s history and reputation, probably not a bad thing.

Lauren: [ Sighs ] I — I don’t even know what to…

Michael: Alright, to be blunt, it is one thing to make allowances for a man who is about to die, but it is another thing now that it looks like he’s going to live.

Victor: “Miraculous.” Yes. I’m gonna go with that. This new treatment is nothing short of a godsend.&

Victor: Yeah, well, maybe your husband wants to project an image of strength, you know?

Victoria: What does that mean?

Victor: Well, I just wonder why he isn’t here today. I mean, is there more to it?

Victoria: [ Scoffs ] Like what?

Victor: I don’t know. Maybe there are aspects of his illness he doesn’t want anyone to know about except for you.

Victoria: I can assure you that he had a very important appointment scheduled on his calendar, one that he didn’t want to miss. He didn’t try to skip out on this meeting.

Nikki: Of course not, darling. We understand.

Victoria: He’s not trying to hide something, if that’s what you’re saying.

Victor: I’m just curious about his condition.

Victoria: You know, when ashland was going through the chemotherapy, it was awful for him. He was sick and shaky.

Victor: Yeah.

Victoria: It was very hard for him to put on a good face because, you know, he didn’t want people to pity him or to be uncomfortable.

Victor: Of course.

Victoria: But now he’s feeling much stronger, and every day he’s more and more like his old self.

Nikki: That is so encouraging.

Victoria: It is. I know.

Victor: I still — you know, I just keep on wondering, why did he go all the way to peru, you know, to find this obscure and experimental, you know, procedure to heal him of his cancer, where he could have found the best institutions that deal with that kind of stuff here in this country?

Victoria: Daddy, you’re dancing around something. What is it that you really want to say? When I get a migraine,

Nikki: Darling, I think your father just wants to know if ashland is really doing as well as he seems to be. That’s all.

Victor: Sweetheart, I’m just wondering how things will look going forward. I mean, ashland expressed the idea that he wants to be very involved in the new business, you know? So, uh, will he be able to withstand all that stress?

Victoria: That is ashland’s intention, as much as his health will allow.

Victor: I guess we don’t have to worry about that. I mean, he seems to have recovered miraculously, you know?

Nate: When you enrolled in this trial, I was careful to temper my expectations. Even though the protocol had shown some promising results, I had doubts, grave doubts, you know, given the unproven nature of the treatment and how advanced your cancer was. But the chemo wasn’t working and you were out of options. You and victoria did the legwork to find the study, and I was not about to stand in your way. Now the results speak for themselves. Your disease has stopped progressing.

Ashland: Well, I was so thankful to find this treatment when we did. You said so yourself that I was running out of time. And then the universe cut me a break. Then to meet victoria and only have a few months with her seemed like a terrible twist of fate.

Nate: This is true.

Ashland: In the beginning, I was adamant. I had no intention of getting on that carousel of endless drugs being pumped through me and getting weaker and weaker. And victoria refused to accept it. And she insisted that I fight, so I did, for her, so that we could have a chance to have more time together. I know I’m not out of the woods yet, nate. I’m just pleased that, you know, I’ve come so far.

Nate: This treatment has exceeded my expectations. I have never been happier to be wrong.

Chelsea: Thank you.

Michael: Of course. I will leave you ladies to your meeting.

Lauren: Well, it was nice having you all to myself, however briefly.

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Michael: Oh. Sorry.

Lauren: It’s alright. Take it.

Michael: Okay. Michael.

Chloe: Thank you for meeting with us.

Lauren: Yes. Why did you want to meet?

Chelsea: We have a proposition for you.

Chloe: It’s about fenmore’s, actually.

Lauren: Oh. Okay. I’m listening.

Chloe: Well, you know how well newman fashion was doing as a division of newman media.

Chelsea: The future looked bright, so many plans, all potentially quite lucrative.

Chloe: It was just a matter of creating the right team to execute it all.

Lauren: Well, I know that newman/locke is buying newman media and you had almost no warning.

Chelsea: None, actually.

Chloe: Still, we see it as an opportunity. Even if victoria had made another call, we believe that her vision was just too limited for the goals that we have in mind.

Lauren: You know, it’s nice seeing the two of you together again. You spark off each other very well.

Chelsea: Aww. We think so.

Lauren: [ Chuckles ] So, chloe and I got past our issues regarding victoria’s wedding dress, but the last time you worked for me…

Chelsea: I behaved abominably. I know.

Lauren: I know we’re putting that behind us, but it will factor into my thinking.

Chelsea: You know, that’s the old chelsea. I’m a different person now, you know? I am focused on just starting over and creating a stable environment for my son. And truly, lauren, I would just like to make it up to you.

Chloe: And these fresh, new ideas that we can bring to fenmore’s, which are already generating so much buzz.

Chelsea: Yeah. We want to build on the momentum, make our success your success.

Lauren: Well, as long as it doesn’t include sally spectra, I will definitely entertain a proposal.

Itchy?

Ashland: I don’t suppose you’ve given any more thought to the offer I made?

Nate: I’ll admit… I was flattered.

Ashland: Something I learned a long time ago — just because someone comes with impeccable credentials, an mba from the most august business school, that doesn’t mean that they’re gonna be the most effective hire.

Nate: I can’t help wondering if you’re only wanting to bring me on board because we’re friends.

Ashland: Well, I’m not, uh, offering you this job because you’re a friend, which you are.

[ Sighs ] I made this decision because I’ve learned to trust my gut and listen to it. You’re gonna need to be mentored, provided with guidance, but you have all the tools that you need. And you come with a world view that is invaluable. You have worked with people going through the — the most difficult life-and-death problems, the most unfortunate and delicate of choices. And you have worked within those systems that control those choices. You understand how decisions that are made at the top impact people. So I am offering the opportunity for you to become one of those decision makers, but on a much larger scale.

Nate: Again, I am flattered, but I am nowhere near ready to turn my back on medicine, even if my career hasn’t turned out the way I planned.

Ashland: I respect that. I just wanted you to understand what my thinking was, why I made the offer, which still stands. I always want someone with your level of integrity and your intellect, someone I trust to be on my team.

Nate: I appreciate the kind words.

Ashland: I’ve enjoyed this, as always, and I hope we can do it again soon, but unfortunately I’ve got to run to my next appointment.

Nate: Here’s hoping your labs have continued to trend in the right direction.

Ashland: Thank you, brother.

Michael: Thank you so much for the information. I’m sure it’s gonna prove to be useful.

Sally: So much talent at one table, all women I am proud to have worked with.

Lauren: It’s too bad you couldn’t trust your own talent. Because, believe me, it would have been enough to make you a success.

Sally: Chloe, I will always be grateful for you taking me on after the mistake that I made, giving me a chance to prove myself. I am very proud of everything that we did together.

Chloe: I’m really sorry it didn’t work out.

Chelsea: Well, that’s life for ya. Onward and upward, right? Uh, if you don’t mind, we’re in the middle of an important business meeting.

Chloe: Best of luck, sally.

Lauren: You’ll land somewhere…eventually.

Adam: Hey! Sally’s gonna be just fine, actually, because she is coming to work with me at newman media. Come on.

[ Whispering ] I am sorry I was late. Parking was a bear.

Sally: No, your timing could not have been more perfect.

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Adam: Will you give me a second?

Sally: We have a lot to discuss.

Adam: Hello? Um…

Michael: Hey, uh, nate, are you in a rush to get to work?

Nate: Uh, no, michael. What’s up?

Michael: I just saw ashland take off looking incredibly well.

Nate: Oh, you two are friends?

Michael: We just met recently, but as someone who’s close to victor and victoria, I mean, I’m relieved to see his condition improving. I mean, it’s that experimental protocol from south america, isn’t it?

Nate: Yeah. Peru. Seems to be working.

Michael: Oh, that’s great. You know, having had my own bout with cancer, I know what a — a roller-coaster ride it can be. I mean, at a certain point, you’re willing to try anything,

[Chuckles] No matter how unorthodox.

Nate: Yeah, I’m sure a lot of patients would agree.

Michael: So, what do you think about this new treatment? I mean, is it the breakthrough the world has been waiting for?

Nate: Well, I only have ashland’s case to go by, but the evidence is compelling… almost too good to be true.

Michael: Hmm.

[ Cellphone pings ]

Nate: The hospital. Looks like I do need to get back.

Michael: Sure. Thank you.

Nate: Good day.

Adam: Ah, a man deep in thought.

Michael: What’s going on, adam?

Adam: Well, I should be asking you that. What exactly is my father having you do for him?

Michael: Oh, we still haven’t finalized that. But, you know, I get the feeling your father’s a restless man and he — he sees me as a kindred spirit.

Adam: Ah.

Michael: Have a good day.

Adam: I have kept you waiting again. I’m sorry.

Sally: No problem. Thanks again for the save back there. I assume that you did that so i would seem a little less pathetic.

Adam: What are you talking about? It looked to me like you were holding your own.

Sally: Well, in a few days, when anyone asks, I’ll just say that we couldn’t come to terms on a salary and the deal fell through.

Adam: [ Sighs ] As much as I really enjoyed that mic-drop moment, I actually have been considering offering you a job for real. Lactaid is 100% real milk, just without the lactose.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Can you save water running a

less-than-full dishwasher?

Adam: Look, I know that your goal was to to turn the platform into an actual fashion house because design is your passion.

Sally: Yeah. Victoria pulled the plug on all of it. Newman fashion is dead.

Adam: Well…but you’re business-savvy and you have drive and victoria likes you, which is half the battle. Okay, look, I know this isn’t a dream scenario and we would have to work out the details. And, hell, I don’t even know what you would do or what your title would be —

Sally: Wait, is this on the level?

Adam: A job is yours… if you want it.

Sally: Yes. I want it.

Chloe: It could be an exclusive new line available only at fenmore’s — or some other arrangement that works for us both. But we are open to the full range of possibilities, aren’t we, chelsea?

Chelsea: Absolutely.

Chloe: One thought we had was to introduce a new social-media element to your website so we can have streaming video of exclusive fashion events, live q&as.

Lauren: Right. So, is this a subscription model, or is this open for everyone?

Chloe: Um, either — either/or. But I think that we want to show is how to incorporate each season’s new pieces with the basics that you already have in your closet and show them how to create a new, updated, fresh look. So, staying on trend doesn’t have to be this cookie-cutter approach, or it doesn’t have to break the bank.

Chelsea: Right. Yes. Let’s say you like the designs, the pencil skirts I designed for spring. We show you how to wear them as an office look, on a special occasion, as a — um, a date night, depending on, um — dep– uh, depending on —

Chloe: Color, accessories, makeup.

Chelsea: Shoes!

Chloe: We love shoes.

Lauren: Oh, yes, we do love shoes.

[ Laughs ] Now, what about comments? You know social media these days.

Chloe: No, I know. I know. It can be gruesome.

Chelsea: Yes. We can change the posts. You know, anything — we can weed out anything that has a negative connotation to our brand.

Lauren: Alright, well, I am loving what I’m hearing. Why don’t you put together a business plan, and let’s meet later in the week.

Chloe: Thank you so much, lauren. We are thrilled that you are even giving us a shoT.

Lauren: [ Laughs ]

Chelsea: Beyond thrilled.

Ashland: Hello, beautiful. I’m back.

Victoria: How was your doctor’s appointment?

Ashland: The news is still good. The numbers are holding. The cancer is in check.

Victoria: That’s wonderful!

Ashland: Ah, I was braced for the worst, for the doctor to tell me that all of my progress…

Victoria: No.

Ashland: …Has been erased.

Victoria: Only positive thoughts.

Ashland: You know, I just know how lucky I am, how impossibly lucky. Now I want to hear all about your meeting with nikki and victor, how the discussion about the purchase of newman media went.

Victoria: Well, my father was curious as to why you didn’t attend.

Ashland: [ Laughs ] You know, that is so funny. I often get the sense that your father would prefer to deal with you alone. And when I don’t show, he questions it. It’s very bizarre.

Victoria: That’s my father, always looking for a reason to be disappointed.

Ashland: Well, I hope you explained that only a doctor’s appointment would keep me away.

Victoria: I reminded him of your priority. But, um…

Ashland: But victor had a problem with that.

Victoria: He kept wondering out loud about your treatment and your overall health.

Ashland: In what way?

Victor: Nate and ashland, huh?

Michael: Yes, together, being very chummy. It seemed strange to me.

Victor: Well, I know nate, you know, tried to talk positively to him and offered him some treatment options.

Michael: Still, those two? Friends? Nate’s this genuinely good guy who’s dedicated his life to healing people, the polar opposite of [Chuckles] The “locke-ness monster,” who apparently likes to crush his enemies before breakfast.

Victor: Yeah.

[ Chuckles ] That’s the reputation he has. But, you know, when a man faces his own morality…

Michael: Yeah. Granted, a serious illness will force you to reevaluate your life choices.

Victor: But I agree with you. The fact that ashland asked nate to be his best man in the wedding without really knowing him I found rather odd.

Michael: Decency by association.

Victor: That’s a point.

Michael: After ashland left, I went over to nate’s table to say hello and kind of eased into the topic of ashland’s health, you know, this previously unheard-of drug protocol from south america that was getting results that nobody expected, least of all nate.

Victor: What did he say?

Michael: Well, the man’s the head of surgery. He’s not going to run afoul of the privacy laws, especially not with an ex-prosecutor. However, when we were talking about how well the treatment was working, he made this offhand remark that stuck in my mind. “It’s almost too good to be true.” Do you think ashland’s lying? That it’s not really stopping the spread of the cancer? And what would be his motive for saying something like that? If you have type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure…

Chloe: I am so happy about lauren’s response. She seemed really excited about collaborating with us.

Chelsea: Well, why wouldn’t she? Your pitch was brilliant.

Chloe: Thanks. You didn’t do too bad yourself.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] You mean once I had my head in the game. Sorry. I got so distracted by… you know. I owe you an apology.

Chloe: No, you don’T. Don’t worry about it. It’s an emotional day for you.

Chelsea: That’s no excuse. I need to focus. There’s too much at stake.

Chloe: Well, I’m glad you see that because this is a tremendous opportunity. I just wanted to show lauren that she would be lucky to work with us. And we cannot let sally showing up like that take our eyes off of the prize.

Chelsea: I’m talking about adam. What was that? The way he came to her rescue, pretending to offer her a job? Sally looked shocked, which means that position doesn’t even exist. I am so sick of these games.

Chloe: Then don’t play. Refuse to engage.

Chelsea: It’s easier said than done.

Chloe: Adam just had his company sold out from under him. He is working with his sister and ashland locke, which you know is going to make him crazy. And sally just got cut loose once again. But you and me — we are onto bigger and better things.

Chelsea: You know what? You’re right. Let’s go work on that proposal.

Chloe: I told you today was gonna be a good day. Things are looking up for us.

Chelsea: [ Chuckles ]

Sally: Well, this is so exciting, isn’t it, all of us taking on new challenges? Or hoping to, in your case. Anyway, good luck with lauren. She can be such a stickler. But I’m sure you’ll do great.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Well, here’s your coat. Can’t forget that.

Sally: Yes.

Adam: It’s really cold out there. Got it? Okay.

Sally: Alright, gotta go. Gonna head back to the office and discuss the details of my new job.

Adam: Okay.

Chelsea: Eyes on the prize.

Victoria: Dad was asking about your health in terms of your ability to work.

Ashland: My stamina?

Victoria: Not exactly.

Ashland: Oh. Okay. Then the opposite then. He wants to know if I’m feeling strong enough to be a full partner to you.

Victoria: I’m guessing. He claims that he just wants to know what things are gonna look like moving forward.

Ashland: Well, I can’t answer that. The treatment is new. All we have to go on are the test results. All I know is that I’m just glad to have today [Chuckles] To be feeling like I’m — I’m strong enough to enjoy this — this beautiful thing that we’ve created.

Victoria: I know. I know. And I doubt that it was all directed at you.

Ashland: Do you think he’s toying with you?

Victoria: I’m sure he wouldn’t mind shaking me up a little bit…just because of the chance that you’ll be more involved. I’m sure my father wants me to act like a proper newman and see you as a threat.

Ashland: Well, victor liked me well enough when he thought I’d be checking out prematurely. But now that it looks like I’ll be living long enough to help run his empire, I mean… what was he thinking? That I would use these gifts that I’ve gotten to undermine my wife?

Victor: I’m not sure what ashland locke’s motives are. But something doesn’t smell right.

Michael: I did some digging into the clinic where the experimental trials are being run. I got a call back on the way over.

Victor: Oh, yeah? And what did they say?

Michael: Lo and behold, there’s a shell company providing the cash to finance operations. Guess who the trail leads back to.

Victor: Ashland locke?

Michael: Bingo.

Victor: Mm-hmm. Now, why would he conceal the fact that he is funding a clinic in some obscure place in peru, a clinic that has a therapy that saved his life? Why would he not talk about that?

Michael: What are you thinking? The world is full of make or break moments.

Victoria: Just so you know, this was all coming from my dad. Mom was doing her best to try to keep the peace.

Ashland: Well, because nikki has better things to do than to play politics.

Victoria: Yes, most of the time.

Ashland: You know, I wish that victor would stop working so hard to try to get to you, to plant these unsettling thoughts in your head. Clearly, he has an agenda.

Victoria: Well, that’s a given.

Ashland: We’ll just have to be on guard.

Victoria: I love how cool and calm you are in the face of all of this meddling.

Ashland: Well, I’m not like the other men in your life. I’m used to squaring off with my fellow masters of the universe and besting them. And now I have a better sense of how this particular master’s mind-set works.

Victoria: Really?

Ashland: Mm-hmm.

Victoria: What’s your takeaway?

Ashland: Victor expects unconditional loyalty from his children, but he reserves the right to shift his loyalties as he sees fit, to throw his support into another offspring to suit him without warning.

Victoria: Are you implying that my father doesn’t play fair?

Ashland: He likes to keep you off-balance, each and every one of you kids. I’ve observed that that’s his go-to move. That’s the reason why he is trying to subvert your trust in me. He realizes that you and I are much more formidable as a team. And I think that he was hoping that my illness would keep me from being a force at newman/locke.

Victoria: You might be right about that.

Ashland: I am. But I am regaining my strength every day. And unfortunately for your father, he’s gonna have to contend with the fact that I am going to be a full partner in this business with you. I’m back. And whatever victor may be planning… I will stand with you.

Victor: I want you to keep digging. I think all the answers we are after you’ll find in that clinic in peru.

Michael: Wait a minute. You — you want me to go to peru?

[ Stammers ] For however long this takes?

Victor: That’s right.

Michael: I mean, do you remember a certain promise you made to me when I took this job, having to do with boundaries and lauren being my priority? Do you remember that?

Victor: I promised you i wouldn’t wake you up at 2:00 in the morning. There’s daytime.

Michael: Ohh. She is not gonna like me taking off to south america at the drop of a hat. Ugh! Okay, I’ll do it. Given what I’ve learned already, I’m almost — almost as keen as you are to solve this mystery.

Victor: See? I knew it. I knew this would pique your interest. Cheers.

Sally: What a fantastic day. I can’t wait to show you how smart you were to snap me up.

Adam: Sally, you don’t have to convince me. Just, um, do an amazing job.

Sally: I was feeling so rotten before and played out and sick of all the backstabbing and maneuvering that always seems to be directed at me, when I all i ever wanted…

[ Sighs ]

[ Chuckles ] Thank you so much for giving me this chance.

Adam: [ Inhales sharply ]

Devon: Thanks. You ready to go to abby’s?

Amanda: You can’t wait to sign these custody papers, can you?

Devon: I brought my own pen.

Amanda: Aww, look at you. Well, like I said, if there is anything that you want to amend or add, you just let me know, okay?

Devon: I wouldn’t want to change a word. It’s everything that I want. It’s time with my son in my home. And the best part of all of it is we don’t have to go to court.

Amanda: Yeah, it is always better to settle this as friends.

Devon: Absolutely. And I know this hasn’t been the easiest thing for abby, either. I’m hoping that after today, we can put everything behind us.

Amanda: I really hope that this is just a good start to the future. So you ready?

Devon: What are we waiting for? Let’s go.

Christine: Hey, you two. Hi.

Devon: I didn’t expect to see you here. You getting something to go?

Christine: Why?

Devon: You’re gonna be late for our meeting with abby and chance.

Christine: You didn’t get abby’s message?

Abby: I’m sorry I delayed our meeting with devon.

Chance: No, it’s okay. Take all the time you need.

Abby: It’s just — it really hit me. This is the moment of truth. Once we sign these papers, it can’t be undone.

Chance: Hey. Look at me. I know this is gonna be tough today. I know it. But I thought you were fully on board with sharing custody with devon. What do you need? Do you just need a minute to catch your breath or…are you having second thoughts about this whole thing?

Abby: [ Sighs ]

[ Clears throat ] Hi, this is lily winters.

Phyllis: Hey. What brings you by the grand phoenix?

Jack: Well, I wanted to check and see if you’d made your travel arrangements for milan.

Phyllis: Yes, I’m leaving later today.

Jack: Wow, you’re not wasting any time.

Phyllis: I’m excited to see summer. I’m so excited. And like I told you, it’s just a fact-finding mission, right? So I know what this job holds before I make any major decisions.

Jack: Well, I guess the sooner you leave, the sooner you’ll have answers about your future.

Tessa: Oh, wow. You look amazing.

Mariah: Hey. It isn’t too much, is it? I don’t want to look too amazing for the adoption attorney.

Tessa: Uh, well, I’d give us a kid. Creative genius, corporate star — what’s not to love?

Mariah: Great, ’cause i really, really want to get this ball rolling.

Tessa: Oof, yeah.

Mariah: It’s odd.

Tessa: What?

Mariah: Well, I texted noah to see if he wanted to meet us for coffee, but he has not responded. I guess he’s busy with his new job.

Tessa: Yeah, must be it.

Mariah: What is that face?

Tessa: What face?

Mariah: The face you’ve been making for, like, a few days now, you know? The one where you’re freaking out inside and you don’t want me to find out because you’re afraid I’ll freak out — that face.

Tessa: Wow, that’s strangely specific.

Mariah: Do you have cold feet?

Tessa: Oh, no, no, no, i cannot wait to marry you.

Mariah: Adoption jitters?

Tessa: No, raising a child with you is gonna be the highlight of my life.

Mariah: Tessa, remember, we said no secrets.

Devon: What message from abby was I meant to get?

Christine: She sent a text asking for more time.

Devon: My phone was on silent.

Amanda: Okay, what are we talking about here? Is she just running behind schedule?

Devon: Or is she changing her mind about signing the agreement?

Christine: I don’t know anything more than you do. She just said time.

Abby: It just hurts, knowing that I’m not gonna be able to see my baby whenever I want, that there will be days when i can’t just take him for a walk or read him a bedtime story and tuck him in for the night. I’m gonna miss him so much.

Chance: I know. Hey. And I can’t promise you that it’s not gonna hurt every single time that he leaves, but what i can promise you is that we will get through this together, okay?

Abby: I am gonna miss him on a molecular level. I can’t relax when my baby isn’t around.

Chance: I mean, you didn’t answer my question earlier. Are you having second thoughts?

Abby: No. No, not second thoughts. I mean, dominic is just as much a part of devon as he is a part of me. And, I mean, how can I deny them the chance to share their lives and their love for each other?

Chance: Come here. You are a great mom. You know that? And even if dominic isn’t under this roof with us, he’s gonna know how much we love him. That’s never gonna change. Are you ready?

Christine: I know this situation must be disconcerting, but give them time and don’t jump to any conclusions.

Amanda: I’m sure with a baby in the house, there are a million minor emergencies.

Christine: Exactly.

Devon: Yeah, we understand life happens.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Amanda: Whoa, is this from abby?

Devon: Yeah, it is. She says that she’s ready for us.

Christine: Okay.

Amanda: Okay, that’s great.

Christine: Yep.

Amanda: Let’s do this.

Christine: Let’s go.

Phyllis: It’ll be lovely to see summer, spend time with her. Um…but, yeah, I don’t know what this job holds, so, uh, I’ll find out and then I’ll tell you all about it when we have dinner together.

Jack: I’ll look forward to that.

Phyllis: Me too.

Jack: Hey, nick.

I’m considering moving to milan and working with summer.

Mariah: Alright. I’m listening.

Tessa: Okay. Remember the other night when i popped out to get dinner?

Mariah: Yes.

Tessa: Well, I ran into noah, and he had been drinking alone.

Mariah: He said that he was meeting friends.

Tessa: Yeah, well, he came up with some excuse, but…

Mariah: Okay. Well, obviously something’s wrong. And I’ve been too caught up in my own life and our good news to pick up on that. Did he open up to you?

Tessa: Yes and no. Uh… [ Sighs ] I mean, he didn’t come out and say it, but he basically admitted that he still has feelings for me. But like I said, he had been drinking, and that heartbreak that he experienced in london was so bad that it made him leave the country, so it must’ve been pretty hellish.

Mariah: So what he said meant nothing?

Tessa: Well, I mean, what I’m saying is that his life is in major flux. And, you know, I think he was just nostalgic and caught up in the moment.

Mariah: What were the exact words that he used?

Tessa: Um, well, he brought up the engagement and that basically when you love someone, you want to be happy for them, and he said that he loved you, but…

Mariah: It was clear that he meant you.

[ Sighs ] So my brother is still in love with you. I brought in ensure max protein,

Chance: Sorry for the delay. We had a couple things we had to take care of, and time got the best of us.

Devon: Everything’s okay, though, right?

Chance: Yeah, yeah. Everything’s good.

Christine: Okay, well, we can get down to business as soon as abby’s ready.

Abby: Oh. Here I am.

Devon: Hey.

Abby: Hey.

Chance: Hey, bud.

Abby: Yeah, I just, um — i wanted to make sure that he had the perfect outfit on for this occasion.

Devon: Yeah, he looks perfect. I thought louise was taking him to his music and play class.

Abby: That was the plan, but I thought he should be here with his family. This is a big day for all of us.

Nick: Marketing at marchetti?

Phyllis: Yeah. It’s a great opportunity, and I’ll be working with my little girl. So that’ll be great. And living in milan — that’s a dream come true.

Nick: Uh…what about jack? I…I thought the two of you might be working your way back towards something.

Phyllis: Uh…jack and I are really good friends. He’s encouraging me to pursue this.

Nick: Well, I’m happy for you. Yeah, if this is what you want and you’re doing it for the right reasons.

Billy: Hey.

Jack: Hey.

Billy: Thanks for making this work. And welcome home. Ashley said your trip to europe was a success.

Jack: Yeah, it was a real coup, and most of the credit goes to kyle. He has really come into his own as a leader. I’m very proud of him.

Billy: That’s great.

Jack: You deserve a pat on the back, too.

Billy: Yeah, what’d I do?

Jack: Well, you stepped away from trying to destroy adam and you took this position of coo working with lily at chancellor. It’s a great decision for you and for chancellor.

Billy: Well, I guess all the abbotts are coming into their own. So if everything’s so great and you are trying triumphant about jabot, why does it look like you just lost your best friend?

Jack: [ Sighs ]

Tessa: Well, noah didn’t say specifically that he was in love with me.

Mariah: But he has big feelings for you.

Tessa: Well, I don’t think he ever intended to act on them. He said he was happy for us and he apologized and he said that it would never happen again, and he doesn’t want anything to come between the three of us. Say something.

Mariah: I know my brother. He doesn’t have a malicious bone in his body, so if he says that he’s happy for us, I believe him. So I’m — I’m not angry.

Tessa: You’re not?

Mariah: No. In fact, I — I kind of feel sorry for him. I mean, he came back from london with a broken heart, and then he started working with you on the album cover and then got tangled up in old feelings. And not to go all psych 101, but maybe he fixated on you because you’re out of reach, unattainable.

Tessa: Yeah, that’s possible, because he knows that I’m happily and irreversibly spoken for. Nothing could come of it.

Mariah: Well…that’s what i thought about my feelings for you way back when, and yet…

Tessa: Hey, that’s different. You are the love of my life. We’re getting married. We’re inevitable.

Mariah: Yes. We are.

Amanda: You now share custody of dominic with abby and chance.

Devon: This is amazing.

Abby: Yeah, it is.

Chance: Congrats, man.

Abby: I know, I know.

Christine: All we have to do is file these papers with the court and it’s official. And I just wanted to say how impressed I am that you managed to come together and handle this so smoothly.

Amanda: Yeah, dominic is so lucky to have so many people who love him.

Chance: I feel like we’re the lucky ones. We such a great little kid and a good friend.

Abby: [ Sighs ] Yeah.

Chance: Right?

Abby: We’re a family. Oh.

[ Laughter ] And now it’s official.

Christine: I have to get to my next client, but congratulations to everyone, and I’ll be in touch.

Devon: Thank you, christine.

Amanda: Thanks, christine.

Devon: Appreciate it.

Abby: Oh.

Amanda: I’ll get this out of the way.

Devon: [ Chuckles ] Hey, guys, I just can’t thank you two enough for today.

Chance: Yeah, of course. It’s strange, isn’t it? Such a big decision, all that effort put into it, just wrapped up with a few signatures.

Devon: And I know it hasn’t been easy. I really do. And, abby, I know that it’s gonna take a while for us to get back to where we were, and it won’t be overnight.

Abby: I’m fine.

Devon: Well, that’s all I want.

Dominic: [ Babbles ]

Chance: Yeah.

Abby: I know.

Devon: Hey, can I hold you?

Abby: Want to go see dominic?

Devon: Do you mind?

Abby: Go see him?

Devon: Can I see you, buddy? Oh. Whoa, there you go. Hey, little man.

[ Chuckles ] This party, it’s all for you, buddy. We just made sure that you will always be a big part of all of our lives. That’s worth celebrating, huh? That’s right.

[ Chuckles ] Huh, buddy. You playing with me? I know, it’s a beard. You’re gonna have one one day, too.

[ Laughs ] Oh, man. I’ve been telling everyone…

Noah: Looks like you guys have turned crimson lights into your own personal living room.

Mariah: Uh, that’s the perks of living upstairs.

Tessa: Yeah, don’t be surprised if you can come and see us with our pjs on, lounging in a booth.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Mariah: So, what’s been keeping you busy?

Noah: I forgot to text you back.

Mariah: Mm-hmm.

Noah: I’m sorry. I’ve been doing all these projects for new hope, trying to impress the boss. I’m actually meeting dad here.

Mariah: Wow. A couple days in, you’re already sucking up to the boss.

Tessa: [ Chuckles ]

Noah: Yeah, you know, it’s good to take your job seriously sometimes. You should try it.

Mariah: Oh. Yeah, that’s very funny. I get it, ’cause I’m here and I’m not at work, but we actually have a very important appointment.

Tessa: Yes, with the adoption attorney. We’re starting the first steps in the process.

Noah: Good luck. I hope it goes well.

[ Cellphone rings ] If you will excuse me, we will talk later.

Mariah: It’s unavoidable.

Tessa: Really? If I didn’t know any better, nothing awkward happened. That was perfectly pleasant. Noah seemed totally normal. So everything’s gonna be fine, right?

Mariah: Totally. I mean, nothing has to change.

Devon: You trying to smile or you eating your hand?

Amanda: [ Laughs ] Yeah, I think he is.

Devon: Yeah.

Amanda: Yeah.

Devon: [ Chuckles ] He’s smiling.

Chance: You know what? Since he missed his session this morning, we should probably schedule him another music class for the week.

Devon: Yeah, how’s he liking that class?

Abby: Oh, he loves it. I mean, you should see his face light up when I sing the songs and do the little hand motions like the instructor.

Devon: Oh, man. Is there a place where I can download any of that music? ‘Cause I’d love to hear the songs he likes.

Chance: Yeah, yeah, we’ll get you a link, man.

Devon: Appreciate it.

Amanda: Or maybe you can tag along with abby and chance one day.

Devon: I wouldn’t want to impose on you guys like that.

Abby: No, no imposition. Actually, I was talking to louise, and she said that she be more than happy to help at your place, you know, on the days that dominic’s with you, if you’re open to it.

Devon: Oh, of course, absolutely. I think that’s a good idea. It’d be good for him to see a familiar face when he stays with us.

Chance: Should we talk overnight stay arrangements?

Devon: We don’t have to do that right now. I can call you guys later on and we can go through it all.

Chance: Yeah, whatever works for y’all.

Abby: Yeah, I bet he’ll adjust more quickly to this back-and-forth than all of us.

Chance: Yeah, he’s a tough little dude. He’s gonna be just fine.

Devon: Yeah, he is. Well, I’ll see you soon, okay? You have a good night and you be good. Alright?

Chance: Thank you, man.

Devon: Oh, yeah.

Chance: I got you, boy. What’s up, cowboy?

Devon: I’m the one that needs to thank you guys for giving me this beautiful gift of family.

Jack: Phyllis has decided to move to milan to work with summer, so, yeah, I guess I’m gonna have a bit of a hole in my life.

Billy: You know, when she and nick broke up, I got the sense that you were hoping that the two of you would get back together.

Jack: We could never get things on track. I don’t know, maybe that’s a good thing. Even with the best of intentions, we could never really sustain things, and that’s — don’t take that the wrong way, that’s not a dig.

Billy: It’s hard not to take it as one. What is it about phyllis that creates such chaos and conflict but at the same time inspiring passion and devotion?

Jack: That is a question for the ages. She is one beautiful conundrum. I just heard something amazing!

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Lily: Congratulations! Oh, my god, I’m so happy for you.

Devon: Thank you.

Lily: How do you feel?

Devon: Oh. How do I feel? It’s — it’s very difficult to put it into words. If I had to pick one emotion, it’d be joy.

Lily: Well, welcome to parenthood.

Devon: Yeah, I’mma be coming to you for advice.

Lily: Well, I’m very ready and willing to help you, but, I mean, dom isn’t even talking or walking yet, so just cherish this time with him before things get crazy, you know? Don’t worry about the future. Just cherish the present.

Devon: I know. That sounds like something neil would tell me. I used one of his pens to sign the papers.

Lily: Wow, devon.

Devon: I really, really wish that he could be here and dominic, too. I feel like we should all be together to celebrate today.

Lily: Well, you have me.

Devon: I know I do, and that means the world to me, too. I was thinking earlier about when dru and neil officially brought me into your family and just how proud they were and that feeling of becoming a son to two incredible people like that. Changed my whole life. It gave me a life. I have some pretty big shoes to fill.

Lily: You will. There’s no doubt in my mind.

Devon: Thank you.

Nick: Well, our daughter is gonna love working with you again. And who knows? Maybe a change of scenery is exactly what you need right now.

Phyllis: Oh, is it? Is that what I need? You jumping on the “you should leave” bandwagon. Seems like everybody just wants me to leave town, except for amanda and michael. They actually want me to stay. Maybe they’re my only really good friends. Who knows? Ah, great. Is that for me?

Jack: No, actually, this is for harrison. I forgot to give it to him when I was in milan. I found it in my luggage when i unpacked. Um, would you mind delivering it?

Phyllis: Oh, I’d be happy to. Sure.

Nick: I’m gonna go. Um…have a great trip. Eventually, I know you’re gonna find whatever it is that you’re looking for.

Phyllis: Thank you. I plan to.

Jack: Was that a good conversation?

Phyllis: Oh, yeah, it was great. He’s very supportive of my — my move.

Jack: You don’t sound too enthusiastic.

Phyllis: Because I’m not. Tell me to stay. Tell me I’m wanted. Tell me I’m needed. Tell me you still love me. Tell me we have a future together like we’re supposed to.

Jack: Phyllis? Hey. Phyllis? Is everything alright?

Noah: So, the project we were talking about.

Nick: Which one? We’ve been talking about a lot of them.

Noah: The one turning vacant lots into urban parks and community gardens. I got in touch with that guy you said was a marvel at writing grant applications, and he’s gonna point me in the right direction to some foundations for funding.

Nick: Great.

Noah: And the icing on the cake is I finally got ahold of that landscape architect you were talking about, and we’re meeting up later this week.

Nick: Well, this is some next-level dedication. You are working hard. So hard, one might assume you are trying to, I don’t know, not deal with something or someone.

Noah: I thought you’d be happy to have such a go-getter on the job.

Nick: Look, this is your dad talking now, and, you know, you said something like you made a mistake by being too human. Does that have anything to do with tessa or the feelings that are bubbling up again for you? You okay?

Noah: Yeah, yeah, it’s nothing a cup of coffee can’t fix. Can I get you anything?

Nick: Yeah, as long as you’re buying.

Noah: [ Chuckles ] Hey, can I get anybody anything? Refill, muffin, brownie? It’s my treat.

Tessa: I’ll join you. Maybe something will scream my name.

Mariah: [ Chuckles ]

Noah: I got kind of a weird vibe from you guys earlier, and then just now, with the looks between the two of you. You told her, didn’t you?

[ Sighs ] You mind telling me what possessed you to do that? I’m steve.

Lily: So, I’ve already been batting around some ideas for dom’s room.

Devon: For dom’s room?

Lily: Yeah.

Devon: You don’t waste time, do you?

Lily: Nope. Okay, honest opinions.

Devon: Yeah.

Lily: What about this one?

Devon: I like that.

Lily: This?

Devon: Yeah. That’s not bad at all.

Lily: Really?

Devon: Yeah. I love it. That should be his room.

Lily: That’s the one?

Devon: That’s the one.

Lily: Wow.

Devon: I like it.

Lily: Spoken like a dad who knows his son.

Devon: I want to have a — a sound system in his room, too, ’cause abby and chance are getting me the playlist from his music appreciation class…

Lily: Mm-hmm.

Devon: …And moses has these jazz lullabies that neil gave him that he said he used to play all the time.

Lily: Aww. Okay. Yeah, I’ll look into it for you.

Devon: Thank you.

Lily: Alright, good. I’m glad you like that one.

Devon: Hello.

Lily: Hi! Oh, there’s the best lawyer in town.

Amanda: Aww, you’re just saying that because it’s true.

Lily: It is true, yeah.

Devon: It is very, very, very true.

Amanda: Aww. You see why I keep him around?

Devon: Have we, um — did we get everything taken care of?

Amanda: Um, yeah. I filed the papers with the courts. I know it was already final in our hearts, but we had to make it legit with the state.

Devon: Yeah, I know. We’re one step closer to that. I don’t know how I would have gotten through all this without you.

Amanda: I’m just excited to start this next chapter, and I’m looking forward to this adventure with you and little dominic.

[ Doorbell rings ] Ohh. You expecting someone?

Devon: I’m not, no.

Lily: Uh, no. I am, actually.

Amanda: Huh.

Lily: Surprise.

Devon: [ Chuckles ] Take a look at what lily —

Amanda: What is this?

Devon: It’s lily’s design for the room.

Lily: Hi, honey.

Billy: Hi.

Lily: Hi.

Billy: Mwah.

Devon: Who is that?

Billy: Hey! Now it’s a party!

Devon: Hey, man.

Amanda: Ooh.

Billy: Amanda, devon, congratulations.

Devon: Nice.

Amanda: That is a lot of champagne.

Billy: That one’s to celebrate right now. This one is for you to hold on to for a few decades, until dominic graduates college or joins you at hamilton-winters, whatever. But now you have something to celebrate this amazing day.

Devon: That is very, very kind of you. Thank you, man.

Billy: Absolutely.

Lily: Yeah, it’s a special day.

Devon: It is. Have you spoken to abby at all yet?

Billy: I left her a message, but I, uh, haven’t heard back from her yet.

Lily: But everything went well when you were at their place, right?

Devon: Yeah, it did.

Amanda: Yeah, they were — they were great about everything.

Billy: Good. I’m glad to hear that.

Amanda: Well, I’m gonna go and get some glasses for this champagne.

Devon: Nice.

Amanda: Oh, and, um, just to let you know, I have dibs on the first toast for dominic.

Lily: Hey, no problem.

Devon: You got it.

[ Laughter ] Thank you guys.

Abby: Is he sleeping?

Chance: Yeah. I think all the excitement wore him out.

Abby: That makes two of us.

Chance: Hey. I’m really proud of the way you handled that today.

Abby: It was pretty intense, but I was fine.

Chance: My, uh, hand’s still a little numb. Don’t really have any feeling in it.

Abby: Sorry about that.

Chance: No, no. It’s okay. I’m glad you know you can hold on to me as tight as you want.

Abby: Thank you. And I hope you know it goes both ways.

Chance: Mm-hmm.

Abby: Is there anything I can do for you?

Chance: Well, you know what? Now that you mention it, I think there is.

Abby: Ah. What is that?

Chance: Let me take you out on a date next time devon takes him. You know what? In fact, let’s make it a tradition. Somewhere spectacular one week, and the next week, we can kick back, you know, binge a show, take some of those cooking classes you were talking about. Yeah.

Abby: [ Laughs ]

Chance: Let me make up for all that lost time I missed out on. I think it’ll be really good for us.

Abby: It sounds perfect.

Tessa: Look, I had to tell mariah what happened, but i didn’t do it to hurt you or embarrass you.

Noah: Then why mention it? I said when you love someone, you want to see them happy, and I love my sister. Alright? You misunderstood.

Tessa: Did I?

Noah: [ Sighs ] Tess, there — there was nothing to tell. Which is why I thought we agreed to forget about this and move on.

Tessa: Look, it’s not that simple, okay? Mariah could tell something was up. And more than once, secrets have almost ruined our relationship. And, look, that woman over there means more to me than anything. And I am not willing to jeopardize that, especially now that we’re getting married and starting a family.

Noah: Tessa, I am no threat to your relationship.

Tessa: I know. And now we’re all on the same page.

Noah: I can only imagine what she thinks of me now. She probably wants my head on a silver platter.

Tessa: No, she understands, just like I did.

Noah: [ Sighs ]

Tessa: Noah, look, I — i understand why this might be difficult for you to talk about, but it’s just better to keep it all out in the open. We all want the same thing — for things to go back the way they were before.

Noah: Big, happy family.

Tessa: Hey. Maybe we’ll all look back at this and —

Noah: And laugh? That’s doubtful.

Tessa: I’m sure that you need some time to process this. But I hope you’re okay with it because mariah and I are.

Noah: [ Sighs ]

Allergies with nasal congestion

overwhelming you?

Jack: Well, I have a meeting I have to run to, so this is probably the last we’ll see of each other before you go.

Phyllis: Thank you for stopping by.

Jack: I hope you have a safe trip, and like nick, I hope you find what you’re looking for.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ]

Jack: If I can do anything…

Phyllis: Yes, uh, you can do something.

[ Sighs ]

Jack: Go ahead.

Phyllis: Never mind.

Jack: Well, I look forward to our dinner together when you get back.

Buona avventura.

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ] Thank you. Bye.

Jack: Take care.

Phyllis: Tsk. Hello. I need a car. Grand phoenix hotel.

[ Inhales sharply ] Genoa city airport.

Tessa: Look, I’m no expert on relationships, but this, too, shall pass, right? My life with mariah is about to become bigger and more wonderful than I even deserve, and I don’t want you to think that you can’t be a part of that. This kid is gonna need his uncle noah, and I just know that the right woman is out there waiting for you.

Mariah: Uh-huh.

Tessa: Mariah, we should get our birth certificates and passports before we meet with the adoption guru.

Mariah: I almost forgot. Yes, let’s do it.

Nick: Well, good luck with everything.

Mariah: Thank you. Alright, bye, nick. Bye, noah.

Noah: See ya.

Tessa: Bye.

Nick: Right. What was that?

Noah: Nothing. Everything is cool. Oh, phone is on vibrate.

[ Clicking ] Dude. Ah, that’s perfect.

Nick: Something important?

Noah: Yeah. A buddy of mine just flew into town. We keep trying to make plans to hang out with each other, but they keep falling through. But he has a couple hours free right now, so I should probably fly, if that’s cool with you.

Nick: Of course. See ya.

Noah: I’ll catch you later.

Nick: Yep.

Chance: Hey, you barely ate anything this morning. You hungry? I’m whipping up some lunch.

Abby: Yeah, I could go for that.

Chance: Alright. When I get back, we’ll throw around some ideas for date night.

Abby: Yeah. Sounds nice.

[ Sighs ] Mom. Hey. Have time for an update? Everything went according to plan. No, um — no, I’m not crying. I’m not crying. It’s just I — I wanted to hear your voice.

[ Sighs ] It was the hardest thing that i have ever done. But I know it’s the right thing to do.

Lily: Okay, here’s a gift for you and the baby.

Devon: Man.

Lily: I hope you like it.

Billy: It’s a memory book.

Lily: Oh, my gosh, let him open it.

Devon: It’s a book.

[ Chuckles ]

Lily: [ Chuckles ] No, it’s cute. You can put all of his pictures in there and list all of his milestones. So, when he first says your name or first walk, he gets his first tooth.

Devon: Yeah.

Amanda: Aww, it’s a lifetime of treasured memories. That is so sweet.

Lily: Yeah, and if you open to the first page…

Devon: Oh, wow. “For the newest member of our family, dominic newman abbott winters-chancellor.”

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Lily: Do you like it?

Devon: I love it. Thank you so much, both of you guys, really. This is — it’s beyond special. I can’t wait to fill these pages with my son.

[ Chuckles ] Wow.

Victoria: Adam. Listen. Um, I really appreciate you coming by to give your decision in person. But, you know, there’s really no reason to belabor this. Thank you for everything that you did for Newman Media, and we promise to take very good care of it from here. And good luck in your future endeavor.

Adam: Wow, you are very sure of yourself.

Victoria: That’s because you and I both know that this is the only answer that makes any sense.

Adam: Then call me crazy, but I’m not moving on to another job. I’m gonna stay with the company once the sale goes through.

Victoria: Is that right?

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Victoria: Hm.

Adam: I’m a team player, and I didn’t want to dump such an important piece of family legacy in your lap when you already have so much on your plate.

*********************

Nick: So, where did this interest in business come from, because I had not heard this before.

Faith: I really liked the econ class that I took, and i have some great role models in our family. I really look up to aunt Victoria, Summer, and grandma. Mom, too — she’s worked in the business world before, not to mention running this place. So, maybe I inherited the gene.

Nick: Your mother is definitely inspirational. And I have every “faith” in you, too. See what I did there?

Faith: Ugh! Dad!

Nick: Look, kid. You know I’m your biggest fan. I think you’re so smart and driven, and I believe you can do whatever you want in this world, including business, if that’s what you decide to pursue.

Faith: Thank you. And I’m not saying for sure i want to do this yet, but I do like the idea. So, I at least want to explore it.

Nick: Yeah, well, the good news is, you don’t have to decide right now, right? You can try all kinds of things and then make a choice when it feels right.

Adam: What do you mean Newman/Locke is buying Newman media?

Victoria: Well, I really don’t think I can say it any more clearly than you just did. Which part of it did you not understand?

Adam: [ Scoffs ] I knew that there was an offer, but this seems abrupt.

Victoria: Well, dad summoned me to the ranch. He accepted our offer. We shook on it. The deal is done. You know, he didn’t even really drive that hard of a bargain. I wonder why he didn’t tell you. Oh, well. Look on the bright side. At least now you don’t have to worry about me suing you for the name Newman Media because I own it. I’m the Newman in charge.

Faith: Rey, tell my mom how important it is that I visit colleges before I apply.

Rey: Well, I will be honest, I went to the Police Academy and Lola went to culinary school, so not really an expert.

Faith: Mom, practically everyone in my class is visiting campuses with their parents.

Sharon: Then, yes, we can go. It’ll be fun.

Faith: Thanks so much, mom.

Sharon: But I also still want you to consider GCU. You know, I had really wonderful professors there when I was getting my therapy credentials.

Rey: In other words, she wants to keep you close to home.

Faith: [ Chuckles ] Isn’t college supposed to be the time that I finally spread my wings, figure out who I am and what I want to do with my life?

Sharon: Yes. I just think that you can do all those things while still staying in the same zip code.

Chelsea: It’s just so victor to completely blindside adam and sell newman media to victoria.

Chloe: We were blindsided, too. The fate of our fashion brand now hangs in the balance.

[ Sighing ] Just all of that hard work and effort could be for nothing.

Chelsea: No! Not if adam stays on at newman/locke after the acquisition. Then I think our jobs will be safe. And, you know, adam’s invested a lot in our platform, too. I don’t think he would just dump us.

Chloe: I wouldn’t be so sure of that. I hate leaving our fate in adam’s hands.

Lauren: Here you go. What are you doing?

Michael: Uh, a little business.

Lauren: For victor?

Michael: He is my new boss now.

Lauren: Ah! The madness starts. Okay, what does he want?

Michael: Um, actually, i don’t quite know, which is unfortunately often the case with him. The man gives you half the story half the time.

Lauren: Which is why I found it so odd that you were eager to go back to work for him.

Michael: Well, he, not unlike yourself, keeps life interesting. For example, I do know that the newman media sale will soon be public knowledge, but, after that, what his next move will be… is anybody’s guess.

Victor: Hello, my baby.

Nikki: Hi. You look like you’re deep in thought.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Nikki: Is that because adam gave you his decision about staying with newman/locke?

Victor: Uh, not yet, no.

Nikki: Any idea which way he’s leaning?

Victor: Your guess is as good as mine.

Nikki: Well, I’m sure he has a lot to think about. That was a bold move, handing his company to victoria.

Victor: Well, yeah. But it’s not as if he has been left to his own devices. He’s been guaranteed to run the newman media division as he had before, you know?

Nikki: What are you prepared to do if he says no?

Ashland: Well, let’s say that adam says yes to staying on board. How is that going to affect the way things run around here?

Victoria: You don’t have to worry about that. It’s never gonna come to pass.

Ashland: Well, how can you be so sure?

Victoria: Because adam would never deign to work under me.

Ashland: Well, if he had no intention of entertaining the offer, wouldn’t he have turned it down by now?

Victoria: I’m telling you. Adam would rather eat glass than take orders from me. He made that perfectly clear when I told him about the acquisition. And the reason that we haven’t heard from him? It’s just another one of his mind games. He loves keeping people hanging…

Ashland: Mm.

Victoria: …By the fingernails, if possible.

Adam: Come in.

Sally: I hope I’m not bothering you.

Adam: Uh…you’re not… yet.

Sally: I just wanted to see if you made your decision yet and to let you know I’m available for another pep talk if need be.

Adam: That will not be necessary, because I have made up my mind.

Sally: And?

Adam: And you will hear my verdict very soon.

Sally: Adam!

[ Sighs ]

Nate: Boy, did I need this day off from the hospital.

Elena: Me too. It’s nice to just be able to relax and spend a little time together.

Nate: Though I can see the mountain of paperwork piling up for me.

Elena: Well, what are you gonna do? Comes with the territory, mr. Chief of surgery.

Nate: It does, but I honestly didn’t realize how much of the job was administrative when i took it. Maybe I should take ashland up on his offer to work for newman/locke.

Nick: Alright, let’s hear it. How’d it go with your college counselor?

Faith: Great! She helped me narrow down my list of schools to a few that stood out. The university of michigan is my favorite so far. I’m looking forward to visiting it in a couple weeks with mom.

Nick: Go, blue! Alright. What about it? Is it the campus, the location, the arts program?

Faith: Those are all pluses, but they also have a really good business program.

Nick: Business. I didn’t know that was something you were interested in.

Faith: Yeah, I’ve been thinking lately that I might want to go into the fashion or beauty industry, like summer and aunt victoria did.

Adam: We need to talk.

Victoria: Adam. Listen. Um, I really appreciate you coming by to give your decision in person. But, you know, there’s really no reason to belabor this. Thank you for everything that you did for newman media, and we promise to take very good care of it from here. And good luck in your future endeavor.

Chloe: In the back of my mind, I always worried about accepting a job offer from adam, that it would be a mistake, because we have poured out our blood, sweat, and tears into creating this platform, one that I’m really proud of, and for what? I mean, it could all be over tomorrow. Someone else could be running it.

Chelsea: That’s all true, and I understand your frustration. But I’m not giving up yet. Okay? I know that you’ve been working on this platform a lot longer than I have, so you’re more invested, but I think we need to fight.

Chloe: [ Sighs ] I’m just so glad to hear you say that. I…I have put so much energy into this, mainly for you. I’ve really felt like I owed you this after everything that i have put you through. And this is not just about work or business for me. I really just wanted to say thank you for always standing by me. And I just wanted you to have a special place to come home to and a safe place to land. So, I agree with you 100%. We should not let this obstacle get in our way.

Chelsea: Good. Then, we are on the same page, because together we are a force to be reckoned with.

Chloe: Yeah.

Chelsea: And you know what? We don’t have to leave our fate solely in the hands of adam. Come with me.

Chloe: What — where are we going?

Chelsea: Straight to the top.

Chloe: Oh!

Nick: Yeah, well, the good news is, you don’t have to decide right now, right? You can try all kinds of things and then make a choice when it feels right.

Faith: Yeah, I know. Moses had his heart set on being a doctor, and then he didn’T. He totally changed his mind. So, I realize that my feelings might change, too.

Nick: Well, I understand being inspired by your family, but, also, you know, I want to make sure that they don’t have too much influence on you, you know? I mean, does this interest in business have anything to do with your grandfather?

Faith: No, not at all.

Nick: So, he didn’t try and talk to you or give you any advice about this?

Faith: I swear. He didn’t say anything to me. But I look up to him, too, and i think that he’d probably be happy to hear that it’s possible I’ll follow in his footsteps.

Nick: Oh, yeah. He will be thrilled.

Faith: [ Chuckles ]

Victor: Enough business talk — let’s go have some lunch.

Nikki: Well, I would love that, but I’m not gonna let you dodge my question. I know you’re disappointed in adam, but I also know how much you value your father-son relationship with him, and you two have come a long way.

Victor: We have, indeed, and I will do everything in my power to maintain a good relationship with my son, okay?

Nikki: Well, I will always be wary of adam, but that doesn’t mean I want to see the two of you in a big blowup again.

Victor: Don’t you worry. If he does not want to work at newman/locke, I have a plan “B.”

Nikki:, Darling, you always have a plan “B.”

Victor: [ Laughs ] My baby, you know that I’m always a move or two ahead of everyone else.

Nikki: Mm-hmm. I do.

Victor: Yes. Here we go.

Victoria: I can’t lie. I’m surprised that you want to stay on with the company. But if that’s the case, then welcome aboard.

Adam: Oh, well, thank you. Technically, I’ve been on board, so maybe I should be welcoming you.

Ashland: I hope that we can make this a seamless and conflict-free transition.

Adam: That is exactly what i want, as well.

Victoria: Yes, that’s everyone’s goal, and I’m sure that dad is gonna be thrilled with your choice, since he fought so incredibly hard to keep your job safe.

Adam: I think my work speaks for itself. The success of newman media is enough to convince you that i know what I’m doing. Oh, and I expect to maintain the same level of autonomy that i have enjoyed thus far.

Victoria: Not so fast. Better skin from your body wash?

Victoria: Well, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but I prefer to see where you can take things before I give you complete autonomy.

Adam: Should we ask your business partner what he thinks, since my sister doesn’t seem to be consulting with you about a company that once was yours.

Victoria: Oh, don’t be ridiculous. We talk constantly.

Adam: Look. Certainly, you can recognize that I’ve taken former cyaxares to new heights, right?

Ashland: I’m gonna have to agree with victoria. While you have done a yeoman’s job running the company to this point, there will be changes coming. And once the sale is final, and newman media merges with chanccomm, it’s going to be a much larger division. Instant autonomy might be a bit much under those circumstances.

Victoria: Exactly. We are in complete agreement. You’re gonna have to prove that you can run an entity that is essentially double the size of the one that you’re currently managing.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Need I remind you that I once ran newman enterprises?

Victoria: Oh, yes, i remember.

Adam: Well…I’m going to take this as a challenge. And I look forward to showing you what I am capable of. Now, since we have a plan, who wants to break the good news to dad?

Nate: Ashland presented a pretty tempting offer. He suggested using my medical expertise to try to do good on a larger scale. He even offered to mentor me in the private sector.

Elena: Yeah, and I remember you telling me about the business classes you took back when you were in school. They actually helped us a lot when we were setting up the clinic.

Nate: Yeah, one of my professors suggested I take those classes. I really enjoyed them because they exercised another part of my brain.

Elena: I assume you’re not actually considering giving up chief of surgery to do something like that?

Nate: No, no. I…I truly thought ashland was kidding until he brought up askmdnow.

Elena: Wait. What? Is he trying to replace me with you?

Nate: No! No. No, not at all. Ashland thinks you’re doing great. He was talking about expanding the mission of the site, thinking bigger and taking it further, which is great for you. Ashland and victoria see the value in the site, and they don’t plan on disbanding it.

Elena: So…are you considering it at all?

Nate: Even though I don’t have the same passion for this chief job as I did being a surgeon, it doesn’t mean I’m ready to leave the hospital altogether.

Elena: And you’re not able to do the job that you love… because of me.

Chloe: Hey, could we get a minute of your time?

Victoria: Oh, look. I’m sorry. I’m swamped. You’re gonna have to make an appointment.

Chelsea: Oh, I promise we’ll make this quick.

Chloe: Yeah, we’ll get right to the point.

Chelsea: Yeah.

Victoria: Alright. Just please make it quick.

Chloe: Adam told chelsea about the sale. Congratulations on that. And we look forward to working with you, whether adam decides to stay or not. And we are just hoping that you are going to honor our contract with newman media because we are fully committed to newman fashion’s success.

Chelsea: And we’d be happy to share with you everything we’ve accomplished so far and what we plan to do in the future.

Victoria: I am aware of the platform, and I feel a certain connection with sally because of the beautiful wedding gown that she made for me.

Chloe: And that is the same kind of style, innovation, and chutzpah our fashion brand is all about.

Chelsea: Chloe and I would be the right people to run the platform.

Victoria: Well, I’m not hiring anyone new for newman fashion. I’m jettisoning the entire platform altogether.

Chelsea: What?

Chloe: What? That — okay, that is a rash and very unwise decision.

Chelsea: Can we just talk this through? I think that would be a mistake.

Victoria: I’m sorry, but I’ve thought about it, and I’ve made up my mind. Look — I know that your goal is to expand to your own fashion label, right? So, this way I wouldn’t be holding you up.

Chelsea: Well, how would — how would keeping the platform be holding us up? I mean, that’s the foundation of our brand.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Look. You’re both very talented, but newman/locke is not interested in the hassle and the cost of creating an entirely new clothing line. I’m sorry. I wish you all the best, but i have other plans for newman media.

Adam: Hey, I just called the ranch. They said the two of you were here. Do you mind if I join you?

Nikki: Oh, no, not at all. We’ve been eager to hear from you.

Victor: So? Got some good news?

Adam: I think so. I’ve made up my mind, and I’m staying with newman media.

Victor: You know you made the right decision, right? The world is full of make or break moments.

Chloe: [ Sighs ] What the hell are we gonna do now?

Chelsea: This is bad. This is so bad. I mean, we just found new office space, yet we don’t have a business to move. Might as well cancel that lease.

Chloe: Maybe there’s another option. If victoria doesn’t want the fashion platform, that’s fine. But why does it have to be the end of it? We created it. Why can’t we keep it for ourselves, minus the newman name, of course?

Chelsea: You’re grasping at straws. We no longer have financing.

Chloe: Okay, that might be true, but I’m not throwing in the towel yet. Per our contract, we still get paid severance. So, maybe we could use that money to shop some other buyers for the platform.

Chelsea: But we don’t know how much that’s gonna cost, and the severance probably won’t cover it.

Chloe: Maybe we could find some investors to bankroll us.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] We just don’t know the legalities of it all. Everything we’ve done so far is attached to newman media, which means it becomes victoria’s intellectual property.

Chloe: Even if that’s true, why can’t we start the fashion platform from scratch? We did it before. We can do it again.

Chelsea: I…would be open to that. But I would need to make this clear. If we’re gonna move forward developing a platform together, it needs to be just the two of us, starting fresh. I don’t want sally involved.

Chloe: [ Sighs ]

Michael: I talked to fenmore the other day, and I —

[ Text swooshes ]

Lauren: Go ahead.

Michael: I promise you. As soon as I get the answer I’m looking for, I’m all yours.

Lauren: Okay. It’s just the way it’s gonna be from now on, isn’t it?

Michael: No! No, I made sure there would be boundaries to guarantee that i could have a personal life, which there absolutely will be, the aforementioned boundaries.

Lauren: You know, I was really hoping that you’d have a little bit more time off between resigning from the da and going back to work for victor. But I see that is just a pipe dream.

Michael: Uh…I promise I’ll make it up to you.

Nick: Uh, sorry. I wasn’t eavesdropping, but i couldn’t help but overhear. Are you going back to work for my dad?

Michael: Yeah, we’re getting the gang all back together again.

Nick: I’m surprised.

Michael: Don’t tell me you have an issue with this.

Nick: Better you than me.

Victor: Now, did you inform victoria of your decision?

Adam: I just came from telling her and ashland.

Nikki: And how did that conversation go?

Adam: Well, she told me that I had full —

Victoria: Hello, everybody.

Ashland: Greetings.

Victor: Hello, sweetheart. Hello, ashland.

Nikki: Hi!

Ashland: Victor. Adam.

Victoria: Well, I assume that you two just heard the important news.

Nikki: Yes.

Victor: We did, indeed.

Victoria: Well, I would like to say congratulations to all of us. This is a moment to celebrate, as we embark on a brand-new adventure. Should we have a toast?

Victor: Yep, let’s have a toast. I think it’s a wonderful occasion.

Adam: I can’t say no to champagne.

Victoria: Well, you might want to. You might tick off your new boss.

Ashland: Could I talk to you for a minute?

Victor: Sure. Excuse me, my darling.

Nikki: Sure.

Victor: Ashland, I am very glad we were able to make this deal work.

Ashland: Me too, though i wanted to mention that I have some changes I would like to implement once we take ownership of newman media, things that i think will make it an even more powerful force.

Victor: Don’t you think we should discuss that when victoria is present?

Ashland: I’m confident that victoria would agree that since my specialty is communications, I should take point on this.

Victor: Let’s discuss it later, alright? Well, now…

Adam: Why don’t you do the honors, dad?

Victor: I would be happy to. There we go. Here, my darling. Now, this is to my two children, who are passionate about the family business and who have found a way to work together. To all things newman.

Ashland: Hear, hear.

Nikki: Cheers. Are you one of the millions of americans

“The young and the restless”

will continue. Lactaid is 100% real milk, just without the lactose.

Michael: So, you think I’m making a mistake working for victor?

Nick: I’m not saying that at all. In fact, I wish you luck with the new job.

[ Text swooshes ]

Michael: Sorry. I have to —

Lauren: Oh, don’t mind us.

Nick: I wish you luck with the arrangement, as well.

Lauren: Thank you. You know, I’m still curious as to exactly what victor has you doing, because this feels far more cloak-and-dagger than your typical legal maneuvering.

Michael: Mm, yeah. Well, I — I wish I could tell you precisely what’s going on. But there’s this pesky, little lawyer-client-confidentiality thing.

Lauren: Right, right. I’m not sure I’m liking this new gig.

[ Cellphone rings ] Yeah, get it. Get it.

Michael: Michael baldwin. What?

Nate: I don’t blame you for what happened to my hand. I made my own choices. And, to be honest, I deserved that punch from devon.

Elena: Not the lasting consequences.

Nate: We all feel bad about that, especially him.

Elena: I still wish I could go back in time and handle things differently.

Nate: Hey. No more regrets. Look where we all ended up. Devon is happy with amanda, and I am beyond happy with you.

Elena: I’m happy, too, but —

Nate: Look, look. I may not be a surgeon anymore, but I have a great life. I don’t long for the past because I love where I’m at right now. I love you.

Chloe: We can’t just drop sally. I mean, we need as much help as we can get if we’re gonna branch out on our own, and, I mean, sally is a proven asset.

Chelsea: I disagree. She’s baggage, and the downsides of her joining our team outweigh any so-called “talent” she may have.

Chloe: Why are you still so threatened by her, when you and adam are clearly over? I mean, he’s totally out of the picture now.

Chelsea: Sally has proven she can’t stay in her own lane. And, quite frankly, I think she knew about the sale way before we did. I think she knew it was in the works, and she didn’t say a word to warn us.

Chloe: What makes you say that? Do you have proof?

Chelsea: No, but I-I just — I just feel it. I saw it in her face.

Chloe: I don’t want us to turn our backs on a good addition to the company because of some misplaced emotions.

Chelsea: That’s not what this is! Chloe, we are alone now. We need to fight to stay afloat. You and I, we know each other and trust each other implicitly. Do you really know sally well enough to trust her with your entire professional future… the way we know and trust each other?

Adam: I look forward to working with you.

Nikki: Well, I can only hope for peace and prosperity with all of us working under the same roof.

Adam: Mm-hmm. That’s all that I want. Maybe the key is staying out of each other’s hair. And on that note, I need to get going. I need to let the newman media staff know that they will soon be employees of the great newman/locke.

Victoria: Would you do me a favor? Call my assistant and schedule a meeting for us. There are a couple things that i want to hash out with you before you start.

Adam: Will do.

Ashland: We should head back to the office, as well.

Victor: Ashland. Victoria, my darling, we should discuss the transition of power next time we meet, okay?

Victoria: Yes. Well, you know where to find me.

Ashland: Thanks for the time.

Victor: Ashland.

Nikki: Well, I suppose that was more civilized than i expected.

Victor: Mm-hmm. My darling, you know that I know what I’m doing.

Nikki: You always do.

Nick: Ran into half the family outside. Apparently, there’s some serious moguling going on in here.

Victor: Oh, yeah. Some serious moguling, indeed. Your brother adam and your sister victoria have decided to work together.

Nick: Well, I don’t know how you pulled it off. The fact that adam and vic left here without any bloodshed is pretty damn impressive.

Nikki: Yeah, what do you know? Maybe there’s hope for all of us yet.

Nick: Got to hand it to you, dad. You have assembled all of your troops — vic and adam and mom and ashland.

Nikki: Don’t forget. Your father will still be in his advisory position.

Nick: So many members of the newman family working so closely together.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Nick: Be careful what you wish for.

Everyone remembers the

moment they heard,

Victor: Well, son, I feel that having family work together is a boon for the company.

Nick: Trust me. Not hoping for trouble. I’m hoping it does very well, especially since it seems there may be another member of the newman family who ultimately winds up being an executive.

Nikki: Who are you talking about?

Nick: Faith. She is determined to go to a college with a strong business program.

Nikki: Oh.

Nick: I don’t suppose you had anything to do with that.

Victor: Well, no, I think my granddaughter has good sense, you know? Maybe one day, she’ll be able to convince her father to work for the same company — company that bears his name.

Nick: I wouldn’t bet on that.

Victor: Let me ask you something, son. Now that noah works with you at new hope, don’t you find it gratifying? Doesn’t it make you happy to work side by side with your son?

Nick: I love it.

Victor: Okay.

Nick: I’m also very appreciative that you seem to have united the family under one umbrella. My concern is that there seems to be a lot of cooks in the kitchen.

Victor: Mm.

Nick: And most of them think they’re the head chef.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

Nick: You think that’s sustainable?

Victor: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: Well, there’s my food.

Victor: Alright.

Nick: I love you both.

Nikki: I love you, too.

Victor: Nice to see you, son.

Nikki: Nicholas’ concerns are not unfounded. I think we should start thinking about how to move forward from here. Speaking of that, what were you talking to ashland about?

Victor: He seemed to want to push through some changes at newman media without victoria being there.

Nikki: Mm. I knew it. There seems to be a new power dynamic forming between the two of them.

Victor: Well, it seems to me that now that ashland is being able to manage his illness, he wants to exert more power and more leverage. And I won’t allow that to happen.

Nikki: You don’t think victoria can handle him on her own?

Victor: That’s beside the point. I’m gonna watch his every step.

Ashland: Do you think this was always victor’s plan, to reunify his family under the newman corporate umbrella?

Victoria: I think bringing the family together has always been one of his goals.

Ashland: Well, it makes me wonder what exactly he sees his role here as. I know he wants a so-called “advisory” position. But do you think he’s actually gonna settle for that?

Victoria: I think we need to redefine someone else’s role first… yours.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Sally: I’m so glad you guys called to meet up. Okay, so, here’s what I’m thinking. We just keep working, same as before, and we prove how powerful, dynamic, and invaluable we are. I already have a ton of fresh ideas. What?

Chelsea: I’m guessing adam didn’t give you the heads-up this time?

Sally: What happened?

Chelsea: He’s going to run newman media for newman/locke. Our fashion platform is being killed.

Sally: Wha– that can’t be true.

Chelsea: It’s over, done.

Sally: Adam wouldn’t do that to me… to us.

Chloe: It’s actually victoria who pulled the plug.

Sally: Okay. Alright, well, we shouldn’t just give up. I mean, victoria likes me and my design sense.

Chelsea: We already tried making our case with her. She’s not interested in being in the fashion business.

Sally: Oh, my god. Okay, so, what are we gonna do?

Chloe: Well, I…I think it’s time for us to accept defeat and go our separate ways.

Sally: Just because we’re breaking away from newman/locke does not mean that this is the end for us. We can start a new platform on our own. We already have plenty of buzz, and we can just get another company to back us because we’re already a proven success. I think we should give it a shot.

Chelsea: It’s over, sally! It’s time to move on.

Sally: [ Scoffs ] If you, like many people,

Sally: So, that’s how it is? You know, I could have predicted that chelsea would throw me overboard, but you, too, chloe? We got the platform up and running by ourselves while chelsea was off, trying to figure out if she even wanted to join us.

Chloe: Whoa, whoa. I am as devastated by this as you are. I just think it’s time for us to cut our losses at this point.

Sally: Mm-hmm. Except for the fact that you two probably have enough money and people to rely on until you move on to whatever it is that you’re planning to do without me. And don’t even pretend like you’re not conspiring to start something together.

Chelsea: So, what if we are? We don’t owe you anything.

Sally: You know, I hate to break it to you, but your next project is going to be a big fail, and that will fall entirely on you because I am the reason that the fashion platform took off in the first place. It never would have amounted to anything if I hadn’t busted my butt and took risks on ideas, like victoria’s wedding dress.

Chelsea: Oh, please! Enough with the dress! It was one garment. It’s yesterday’s news. And you know what? You’ve got some nerve, predicting that we’re just gonna fail.

Sally: Okay, I don’t want to hear it. You’re a has-been. And you are a fool to follow her around. So, good luck with chelsea 22.0 or whatever number you’re at now, because you are going to need it.

[ Door slams ]

Victoria: You know what? I feel like we left some things unsettled after our conversation yesterday. I mean, I know that we said we want to work together as a team, which of course we will, but i wonder how you see us specifically functioning.

Ashland: Well, I want to take on a more active role, and i hope you welcome that. Just imagine what we can accomplish if we bring both of our business minds together as a united front.

Victoria: Yeah, I-I agree. And I see the sense in you, you know, having more control, since you’re more familiar with some of the divisions that were previously in your company.

Ashland: I’m so glad that you see things the way I do.

Nikki: So, if you are planning on taking a bigger role at newman than you have indicated, I need to know about that —

Michael: Oh, I’m sorry. Is this a bad time?

Victor: No, no, no, no, no. Come in.

Michael: Victor, I need to discuss a bit of business with you.

Victor: Okay. Sweetheart, would you give us a minute?

Nikki: I’m the coo of newman/locke. I mean, if that doesn’t qualify me to be in this meeting —

Victor: Well, but this won’t take long. I promise.

[ Door closes ] So… what have you uncovered?

Michael: I don’t exactly know what it means, but there’s some inconsistency regarding ashland’s treatment.

Victor: What does that mean?

Michael: There seems to be some question surrounding the treatment’s legitimacy, and, more to the point, the legitimacy of the clinic, the peruvian clinic where it originated.

Victor: To be frank with you, I’ve had my doubts from the very beginning about that nonsense. Why the hell would he travel all the way to peru to look for a treatment for cancer, when we have the best scientists in this country? I want you to dig deeper.

Ashland: Hey, hey. Thanks for meeting up with me.

Nate: Thanks for the invite. How you feeling these days?

Ashland: Fantastic. Better than ever.

Nate: Hey, I got to admit, i am thoroughly impressed with how well you responded to this experimental protocol. It was a long shot, but you seem to be thriving.

Ashland: Oh, there’s definitely a mental aspect to it, you know? I… I feel like I made a mistake backing away from my business when I did, you know? I was at my lowest point then, physically.

Nate: You were also in the throes of chemo at the time. You didn’t have energy for much, especially running a multinational conglomerate.

Ashland: Well, it’s really a question of causality, isn’t it? I mean, I think my love of work fuels me and probably would’ve helped me fight this sooner, but…now that I’m back in the thick of it, I feel stronger than I have in a long time. And I’m not about to shy away from the next fight that comes along.

Sally: What the hell is this?

[ Scoffs ] Hey! I was just about to call you and chloe.

Chelsea: What’s wrong, sally? You seem upset.

Sally: Yeah, you’re damn right I am. All my videos from new york, have you seen them?

Chelsea: Of course. They’re all over the newman fashion site. They’re amazing.

Sally: They’ve been heavily edited.

Chelsea: They have. They’re much crisper and more focused now. Wouldn’t you agree?

Sally: Well, they’re certainly a lot shorter, now that I’ve been cut out of them.

Chelsea: And why is that a problem?

Faith: I’m meeting with walnut grove’s college counselor tomorrow. This is my list of schools I’m applying to.

Sharon: Wow. These are universities from all over the country.

Faith: Yeah, she suggested that I cast a wide net at first, keep my options, but then we can narrow it down.

Sharon: It’s a little overwhelming.

Faith: I know. Which is why I was hoping that in a few weeks you could take me to visit some of my top choices.

Sharon: I love seeing you so excited, but this is not a lot of notice for a big trip.

Rey: Hey.

Faith: [ Sighs ]

Chance: Hey!

Abby: Hi. Wow, what’s all this?

Chance: Oh, you know, just a little something I threw together. Figured you’d be hungry after doing all that sleeping.

Abby: I’m famished. I feel like I slept for 16 hours.

Chance: Yeah, well, you just about did. But you know what? You deserved all that rest.

Abby: Yeah. I mean, I haven’t gotten that much sleep since before dominic was born.

Chance: And now you’re all rested up, feeling good. It’s nice to have a little break, get your batteries recharged, right?

Abby: Yeah. I mean, that’s a healthy way of looking at our arrangement with devon. And we got to spend some time together, just the two of us.

Chance: Exactly.

Abby: You know, you don’t have to do all of this. It’s very sweet, but it’s not necessary.

Chance: Oh, okay. Well, next time you’ll get some granola bars and half a banana. How about that?

Abby: Yum.

[ Laughs ] So how are you feeling after getting that letter from the wife of your colleague who passed away and after everything we talked about?

Chance: Yeah, I’m good, I’m good. Talking to you about it, it helped. It really did. I got a few more hours of sleep than I usually do, so that’s a plus.

Abby: Well, one of the reasons why I slept so late is that I was up thinking.

Chance: Yeah, about what?

Abby: I know that you said that I’m all you need to heal and that talking to me is enough, but what if it’s not? Maybe you should talk to a professional.

Victoria: I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to jump the gun and ruin dad’s big surprise. I’m sure he would’ve eventually told you that he sold your company to me.

Adam: Well, he called me earlier, and I ignored it. Probably should’ve answered.

Victoria: Yes, well, hind-sight is 20/20. Next time you’ll know.

Adam: I’ve been busy running the company. You know, staff have heard rumors about your —

Victoria: Well-founded rumors. But the good news is that most of them will be able to keep their jobs after the acquisition. You can tell them that.

Adam: Well, I hope you’re not expecting a tour of the offices or anything like that.

Victoria: [ Scoffs ] No, not at all. However, I hope you don’t mind, I need to take some measurements for my interior decorator.

Adam: Victoria, can you do this another time? Please?

Victoria: Of course. I’m sure that you have things that you need to do, like call our father. I bet that you’re curious about the details we worked out without you. So, by all means, make your call. Oh, and, adam, I really mean this. I feel like I have a lot to offer you as a mentor. I hope that you’re looking forward to working with me as much I’m looking forward to being your boss.

Ashland: How are things at the hospital?

Nate: They’re fine.

Ashland: You still enjoy being chief of surgery now that you have time to settle in?

Nate: [ Sighs ] It’s a nice title, but I spend so much time overseeing staff and administrating that I don’t have much time for patients, which is what I love.

Ashland: Oh, I imagine you’re being modest. Uh, the way you interact and handle the staff, that kind of compassion and expertise finds its way to the patients.

Nate: That’s possible. I see opportunities to improve things, make memorial more helpful to the community, but there’s just so much bureaucracy to navigate.

Ashland: Well, it must be quite a shift for a man of your training and talent for healing people. I mean, it’s almost as if you’re trying to heal an institution.

Nate: I’ve realized I’m coming to terms with the nerve damage that’s keeping me from performing surgery. I know it sounds like I’m complaining, but I’m grateful for the job, the opportunity to work with world-class physicians. I also, you know, get a kick out of watching elena and seeing how much she enjoys the clinical work.

Ashland: I know what’s going on. You’re a brilliant doctor, but you need a new mountain to climb. And I think I have the perfect challenge for you.

Sally: The problem with me being cut out of the videos is that I gave those conversations context. I asked the questions that the audience wanted to hear.

Chelsea: Did you, though?

Sally: Yes, I had some great, lively exchanges with some of those designers.

Chelsea: But the interviews were supposed to be about the designers, not “the sally show.” I mean, is that your sole purpose at newman fashion, just to be a self-promoter?

Sally: I’m the face of the platform. Hyping me is hyping the brand.

Chelsea: I always thought that was a mistake. A decision that was made before I got there.

Sally: Yes, that’s right. It was decided.

Chelsea: But it’s a bad idea, associating a new brand with one person, especially a relative unknown.

Sally: Okay, I am not an unknown in the fashion world. In fact, I’m actually quite known, most recently for my design of victoria’s wedding dress.

Chelsea: Oh, please. You designed one nice dress. How long are you gonna dine out on that singular accomplishment?

Sally: That was a beautiful dress.

Chelsea: It’s time to move on. Our job is to create a successful business, not feed your ego. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I am going to get some food and head back to the office because there is still work to be done. We can’t all spend all day self-promoting.

Sally: Guess you know best.

Chance: Abby, I really don’t think that I need therapy. And plus, I don’t want to talk to a stranger. I got you.

Abby: Yes, and I will always be here, but I’m your wife. I’m sure there are things that you don’t want to tell me because you don’t want to upset me.

Chance: But I’ve been honest and I’ve been open with you.

Abby: You have. But, I mean, you didn’t tell me that you were reaching out to the families of your team members. That had to have been hard to keep bottled up.

Chance: Well, yeah, it was, and then we talked about it and I feel much better. I really do.

Abby: But you only told me about it because I found you reading that letter.

Chance: No, I would’ve been honest about it. I would’ve told you regardless.

Abby: Okay, look, I don’t want to debate that point, i just — I feel like there are things that happened over there, things that you need to talk to someone about, not necessarily me. I just — I really want you to heal.

Chance: I know. And I know dwelling on past traumatic events can’t be healthy. But just hear me out, I think i got a better way to handle this.

Abby: Okay, what is that?

Chance: So I just keep my mind occupied, right? I got to stay busy. So I think I should go back to work after all. I’m gonna go talk to rey about it today.

Abby: Wow. Um…okay, well, we had just talked about you, you know, taking some time off so we could spend more time together as a family.

Chance: Yeah, I know. I know. And if it would make you feel better, you can come with me.

Abby: No, no, no, rey is your partner. You should talk to him alone.

Chance: Thank you for being so supportive, really.

Abby: Yeah, and if — if that’s what you need to find some stability, okay. Yeah, whatever you need, I won’t stand in your way. Do you have a life insurance policy you no longer need? Faith: I’m not ruling anything out, but I seriously hope you’re not trying to talk me out of going away for college.

Sharon: I would never do that. I was just having a mom moment.

Faith: Good. It’s not like you have to worry about being lonely without me. You have rey and the odds are pretty decent noah will never leave genoa city again.

Rey: You may be right about that.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Sharon: Oh, I have to take this. Excuse me.

Faith: There are a couple girls I know that are applying to schools in europe. Sounds kind of cool. But I’m thinking I maybe shouldn’t mention the possibility to mom.

Rey: There you go. That’s smart. You might want her to get used to the idea of you crossing state lines first.

Faith: [ Sighs ] Thanks, rey. You always have the best advice.

Rey: Then maybe you’ll listen to me when I tell you that as exciting as moving away seems right now, having your family close by could be a good thing.

Sharon: Okay. What’d I miss?

Faith: Nothing. I’m gonna go tell moses that you’re taking me to visit colleges. Thanks again, mom. Bye.

Sharon: I can’t believe how fast my little girl is growing up.

Chelsea: Chance.

Chance: Oh, my god. Sorry.

Chelsea: Oh, look at this little cutie pie.

Chance: Yeah, he’s a handsome little dude, isn’t he?

[ Chuckles ]

Chelsea: Look at you, proud papa. A week ago, you didn’t have any photos of him on your phone, now here you are fawning all over him.

Chance: Oh, yeah, I was pretty embarrassed about that, so i just took a couple hundred since then. You want to check them out?

Chelsea: I would love to. You want to see a couple hundred of connor?

Chance: Please.

Chelsea: Are abby and dom meeting you here?

Chance: No, abby is at home and dominic is with his other dad, devon.

Ashland: I’m thinking of askmdnow, which will soon be owned by newman/locke.

Nate: I had to leave my position there because it was too much to handle with the chief of surgery position. Besides, elena’s doing a great job.

Ashland: She is, but I’m thinking bigger. See, there are opportunities to take the platform further. And if you ever have any desires to shift out of the position that you’re in right now, I’d be happy to bring you on board at newman/locke.

Nate: I’m flattered, but I’m not really a suit-and-tie corporate guy. Matter of fact, the aspects of the job that I hate are the business parts.

Ashland: You know, I really admire your dedication to healing, but I also know that when you were studying abroad, you took some business courses, right? So perhaps there’s a way that we can bridge the two.

Nate: It’s been a long time since I took those classes. I’m not sure how much i remember.

Ashland: Oh, you’re selling yourself short. You are young. You’re passionate and brilliant, and, frankly, a good influence on me. Now, if there’s a way that I can help you do good on a global scale, I want to know about it. You might not be able to perform surgery on individual patients, but with our resources, you can help millions at a time. So give it some thought, hmm? The offer will always be there.

Victor: I’ve been expecting you, son.

Adam: I’m sure you have.

Victor: So you’ve heard the news?

Adam: Mm-hmm. Victoria just came by to rub my nose in it, as a matter of fact.

Victor: Well, that wasn’t necessary.

Adam: How could you make a decision like this?

Victor: Son, you knew there was a deal on the table and i was considering the offer, right?

Adam: You didn’t even consult with me. You didn’t even tell me a damn thing about it.

Victor: I don’t need your approval, son. Business is business.

Adam: There is no good business reason to make this deal. Do you have another agenda going on? And please, do not tell me “maybe I do and maybe I don’t,” dad, okay? I’m getting really sick of the games.

Victor: Why are you getting so worked up, son? This is a great opportunity for you.

Adam: What are you talking about?

Victor: I guess victoria conveyed to you an important piece of information. The deal is contingent on you staying on as the head of newman media and the recently acquired chanccomm.

Adam: That makes it even worse. It means you negotiated on my behalf without even checking with me.

Victor: Do you realize that the business that you’ve been building up would be stronger, more powerful than it was before? Now, you’d also be running the remains of billy abbott’s dream. How’s that?

Adam: You know, what I want, dad, is I want to be valued enough to be included in decisions that affect my life.

Victor: Son, you stay on as the head of newman media or you quit. But newman media will be sold to newman/locke.

Living with diabetes?

Adam: So…when and why did your feelings suddenly change towards me? You did a 180, dad. We were partners, and, what, now I’m some sort of lackey?

Victor: That’s not how it is, son.

Adam: Sure seems like you’re losing faith in me. Is this about the nonsense with billy?

Victor: Mistakes were made, alright?

Adam: It’s absurd. Nothing happened. There was no damage done. And now, what, you’re cutting me off at the knees? You’re selling the company out from under me and I got to answer to victoria?

Victor: If I had lost faith in you, would I have stipulated to victoria that you stay in charge of newman media?

Adam: So it’s another mind game. Mm. You know, nick warned me that i should get off the newman merry-go-round. So maybe it is time that I save myself.

Victor: You know, son, there are certain moments in life when you make decisions that impact the rest of your life. So you can stay on as head of newman media, expand your sphere of power and control, or you walk. Choice is yours. But I need an answer soon.

Chance: So now abby and I are sharing custody with devon. You know, last night was the first time he spent the night with him.

Chelsea: Wow. That’s big. And complicated.

Chance: Yeah, it was a family decision. We didn’t involve the court. And, you know, everybody thinks this is what’s best.

Chelsea: Well, I don’t want to insert myself in something that’s none of my business, but I can relate.

Chance: You can?

Chelsea: Johnny, billy and victoria’s son. I’m his biological mother.

Chance: That’s right. I completely forgot about that. I’m so sorry.

Chelsea: Billy and victoria are his parents, legally and in every other way, but I’ll always have affection for him. It’s just at the time, i recognized that he deserved to be with a couple who could give him all the love in the world, and I just wasn’t ready for that back then.

Chance: Yeah, well, our situations are a little different. You know, you stepped aside for the sake of the child, and, in our case, devon couldn’t step aside.

Chelsea: Right. Well, I understand how emotional you must be. It’s hard to watch someone else raise your kid. You know, you miss them and it’s painful. It — it’s a lot, I get it.

Chance: Yeah, abby’s having a hard time.

Chelsea: I bet. But it’s important that you embrace the fact that devon will love dom with his whole heart, you know? Same way victoria loves johnny.

Chance: Yeah, absolutely. That’s part of the reason we made the decision.

Chelsea: It’s still really difficult, though, you know? Even if you make the decision, you can’t just put those feelings away. They’ll always be there. But our situations are different. Earlier you said that devon is like another dad to dom. I was never another mom to johnny.

Chance: What, do you think it’s too complicated for dom? You think we’re doing more harm than we are good?

Chelsea: No, I don’t think so. You’re putting your child first. That’s leading with love. That’s always the right choice.

[ Sighs ] Sometimes the hardest decision is the one that’s most painful for the parent, but best for the child. That’s love.

Ashland: Well, there she is. We were just talking about you.

Victoria: Oh, really? What did you have to say?

Nate: Nothing but good things. Here, take my seat. I was just about to leave.

Victoria: Thanks, nate.

Nate: Mm-hmm. Hey, thanks for the coffee. Next one’s on me.

Ashland: If you take me up on my offer, you can write it off as a business expense.

Victoria: Offer?

Nate: Ashland here was kidding about me leaving the hospital to join newman/locke.

[ Chuckles ]

Ashland: I wasn’t joking. And I do hope you give it serious consideration.

Nate: Appreciate the vote of confidence.

Ashland: Talk soon.

Victoria: Thank you. So what was that about?

Ashland: Don’t tell me you’re not happy about me inviting him into the company.

Victoria: Where did that idea come from?

Ashland: Well, we’ve discussed expanding askmdnow. Who better than nate to lead that effort?

Victoria: Nate’s great. I just wish I would’ve been consulted on this. You know, I’m not in the habit of making big offers on a whim, especially to a friend. Better skin from your body wash?

“The young and the restless”

will continue. And now most admired alum!

Ashland: Bringing nate into the fold of our company seems like a no-brainer to me. And I appreciate your opinion on the matter, but if I see a smart move for newman/locke, I’m going to act on it. I can’t always run to you for permission, just like you haven’t been coming to me with the decisions that you’ve made lately.

Victoria: Well, the last decision that you disagreed on is about to pay off big time.

Ashland: What are you talking about?

Victoria: You said that we shouldn’t buy newman media if keeping adam on board was a part of the deal.

Ashland: Mm, and I stand by that.

Victoria: Well, I don’t think that we have anything to worry about. Because I just came from seeing adam and he’s not happy, and he’s on his way out the door.

Ashland: He said that?

Victoria: He didn’t have to. It was palpable. My father obviously made this decision without consulting him, and now he’s completely off-balance, so I gave him a little taste of what it would be like to work for me.

Ashland: Huh. Well, I wish I could’ve been there to see that.

Victoria: He hated every minute of it. And I can’t see him coming in every single day to experience that dynamic. I think he’ll quit before he ever comes to work for me.

Chelsea: What now? Are you going to complain to adam about the editing of that video?

Sally: Of course not. I have important things to discuss with him. Adam, I need to —

Chelsea: I seriously can’t work with this woman.

Adam: Stop. I have news that’ll make your complaints about each other completely irrelevant.

Chelsea: What are you talking about?

Adam: My father is selling newman media. Excuse me.

Sally: Who’s the buyer?

Adam: Newman/locke.

Chelsea: I just signed a lease for new office space. So what happens to newman fashion?

Adam: I don’t know what it means for any of us, including me. I haven’t decided if I’m staying with the company or not.

Chelsea: I can’t believe victor would do this.

Adam: Actually, this is the most victor thing he could possibly do. Okay? We had a good run, but he is back to his old ways.

Chelsea: You have to fight it. Stand up for yourself. Don’t just roll over.

Adam: I just found out. Can you give me a second to figure out what my next move is?

Chelsea: Did you know about this?

Sally: Me? How could I?

Chelsea: I don’t know, but you don’t seem surprised. In fact, adam doesn’t seem as upset as he should be if this is the bombshell he claims it is.

Sally: I’m flabbergasted. I’m stunned into silence.

Chelsea: Okay. Well, since protecting newman fashion clearly isn’t at the top of your agenda, I will call chloe and tell her the bad news.

Adam: [ Sighs ]

Abby: [ Sighs ] Well, thank you for coming by.

Sharon: Sure. I hope I can help. What’s going on?

Abby: It’s chance. He says that he’s on a healing path, that he’s doing better, but I can tell he’s still struggling, and I suggested that he see a therapist, but he’s being very resistant.

Sharon: I see.

Abby: So I guess I just — i need to know what my next step should be.

Sharon: Well, what makes you think that he needs therapy now? I mean, is he acting depressed or anxious?

Abby: [ Sighs ] Well, he’s having these nightmares. Sometimes he wakes up screaming, and then he’ll just be up all night. And I found out that he’s been reaching out to the families of the men and women who died in spain.

Sharon: Well, the nightmares are troubling, but contacting people who were affected by the explosion, that’s not inherently unhealthy.

Abby: Well, and then there’s the custody arrangement that we have with devon. He blames himself.

Sharon: Why is that?

Abby: Because he feels like if he were a better dad or even more present, that devon wouldn’t have pushed for shared custody. And now he’s talking about going back to work. He says he needs something to help him feel normal.

Sharon: Wow, that is a lot to process all at once. He must feel overwhelmed.

Abby: Sharon, I just — i need your opinion. Do you think he should be in therapy?

Sharon: I just think chance should be here for this conversation. My foundation doesn’t settle…

Abby: It’s not like I’m going behind chance’s back. I’ve discussed the idea of therapy with him. I just — I thought it would help him get on board with the idea if he knew that you agreed with me.

Sharon: Well, I feel for you, but I just don’t feel comfortable assessing his issues third-hand.

Abby: I understand, but i don’t think he’d come to you on his own.

Sharon: Well, then I suggest you just keep doing what you’re doing. Be supportive, be nurturing, and maybe that’ll encourage him to open up and talk to you.

Abby: I mean, he has been better about sharing his feelings with me.

Sharon: Well, that’s a good sign.

Abby: But, sharon, I really do think he needs professional help.

Sharon: Well, I’d be happy to talk to him directly, or I could make a referral. But we can’t impose our expectations onto him. He needs to decide if he’s ready for therapy. And for the process to be effective, the person has to want to talk things out.

Chance: Rey, hey!

Rey: How are you?

Chance: I’m good, man. Good to see you. Thanks for meeting me.

Rey: Of course.

Chance: Yeah.

Rey: So how are things? I heard that you and abby decided to give devon shared custody.

Chance: Yeah, yeah, we sure did. Yesterday was dominic’s first overnight stay at his place.

Rey: That’s got to be tough for you and abby.

Chance: Yeah, it wasn’t easy, but abby and I feel like this is the best decision. In fact, I’ve had to make a few tough decisions lately, and actually why I wanted to talk to you. I’ve been going back and forth on something.

Rey: Yeah, what’s up?

Chance: Think I’m ready to come back to the force.

Rey: You sure?

Chance: Oh, yeah. I think this is exactly what i need right now.

Rey: But you just recently said that the break was gonna be indefinite, that you needed to spend more time with abby and the baby. What’s changed?

Chance: I just feel like it’s time to go back.

Rey: You sure this doesn’t have anything to do with the custody arrangement?

Chance: You know, it probably does. But I feel like I have to get things back to normal for the sake of my family, and a big part of my normal is working, man.

Rey: I hear you. But what we do involves danger, traumatic events, sometimes life-and-death. Look, if you’re still struggling with what happened in spain, maybe coming back to the job as a cop might do more harm than good.

Chance: I’ve thought about that. And I truly believe that I’m ready to come back. Look, if I can just do some good, if I can just save one life, then maybe I can make up for the ones that I’ve lost.

Sally: You must be furious with victor. I know this seems like a setback, but it’s not complete and total destruction, right?

Adam: Uh, victor doesn’t seem to think so. He tried to appease me by making it a stipulation that I can stay in my position as ceo.

Sally: Well, that sounds like a good thing to me.

Adam: I would be working for my sister.

Sally: Oh.

[ Clears throat ] Well, that wouldn’t be so bad, would it?

Adam: She came by here earlier, gloating.

Sally: Okay, well, that’s mean.

Adam: Yeah, but it wasn’t just petty. She wanted me to know what it would be like working for her.

Sally: You can handle it. I think you should stay here and run newman media your way.

Adam: Mm. I don’t know if that’s even possible. Victoria has been trying to drive a wedge between me and victor for a while now, and looks like it’s finally succeeded.

Sally: Only if you let her. But you’re better than that. I mean, look at everything you’ve accomplished here at newman media. Would you really be willing to walk away from all of this?

Adam: Walking away might be the smartest thing. Why do I want to get tied up in all this family drama again when I could start fresh once and for all? I mean, if I made newman media a success once, I could do it again somewhere else.

Sally: Yes, you can succeed anywhere, but consider the resources that you would have at newman/locke. If you left, you might be scraping together nickels and dimes to create an operation from scratch. But here, the resources are practically infinite. Plus, victoria just bought chanccomm, right? So you would be running your big competitor. I mean, that sounds enticing.

Adam: I would be head of a newly combined media powerhouse.

Sally: I think you should seriously consider it. This is not a demotion. It’s really a promotion. And who knows? Maybe this is victor’s way of giving you more power in the family.

Adam: You clearly have a lot to learn about how my father’s mind works.

Sally: Okay, I get it. I’m an outsider. But maybe that gives me a more objective viewpoint, because from where I stand, your position is just as strong as victoria’S. And she’s never gonna be able to control you, and she knows that. And who knows? Maybe — just maybe — you may be able to find a way to control her. With voltaren arthritis pain gel. Dry eye symptoms

driving you crazy?

Rey: Chance wants to come back to work.

Sharon: Do you think that’s a good idea?

Rey: I’m worried it’s too soon. He’s hoping it’ll help him get back to his old life. He wants to feel normal again. But I think he’s still carrying around the trauma from what happened in spain. And now he and abby have agreed to share custody of dominic with devon. I think he’s avoiding his feelings rather than dealing with them.

Sharon: I just got a similar sense from abby. She’s strong, but she’s dealing with a lot, and agreeing to share custody is obviously huge for both of them. She’s trying to heal her family, but she’s worried about chance.

Rey: Well, did she say anything about him going back to work?

Sharon: That came up, but i can’t really talk about it because she was seeking my professional advice.

Rey: Yeah.

[ Sighs ] You know, being a cop is tough enough when things are going really good. Takes an emotional and psychological toll. You have to be on top of your game at all times, and I’m just — I’m afraid chance isn’t quite there yet.

Chance: Hello?

Abby: Hey.

Chance: Hi.

Abby: I was just about to call you.

Chance: Yeah, what for?

Abby: Well, I wanted to make sure that you’d be home in time. Louise is on her way back with dominic.

Chance: Oh, come on, i wouldn’t be late for that. I know how important it is to be here.

Abby: Did you talk to rey?

Chance: Yeah, I did. He, uh — he had his concerns. I don’t know, I just still feel like this is exactly what I’m supposed to do. I appreciate you being so supportive.

Abby: Mm.

Louise: Look who’s back.

Abby: Oh, my baby! My sweet boy, come here.

Louise: Oh.

Abby: Hi! Hi, my love. Welcome home.

[ Gasps ] Welcome home. Yes. Well, I guess he has two homes now. How is he?

Louise: Oh, he looks happy, rested. Devon said that he was recently fed and changed, so he’s good.

Chance: Okay, sounds like everything went smoothly, huh?

Abby: Oh, I am just so happy that he’s back home and my little family is back together again. Yes, my love. We missed you.

Adam: So you think that i should stay here and continue to run newman media.

Sally: Absolutely.

Adam: Why?

Sally: I just said, it’s an opportunity.

Adam: Yes, yes, yes, it is a glorious opportunity. You and my dad have established that. But what I want to know is why you are taking that point of view. I mean, what is in that for you? You think I’m gonna protect your job at newman fashion?

Sally: I do not have an ulterior motive. I was just speaking to you as a friend. You asked for my advice, so I —

Adam: I didn’t ask for it. You shared your opinion anyway.

Sally: Okay. Well, I was just thinking that you may be blind to this because you’re so hurt and angered by the move, but there is a scenario where victoria might be distracted by the rest of her vast empire to see the advantage that you have where the media division is concerned. You could turn your role into something much bigger.

Adam: That is an intriguing idea. You’re good at pep talks.

Sally: Thanks. [ Sighs ] So…will you stay?

Mariah: That is a great concept, Noah. Thank you for helping us brainstorm. And you probably saved us from some “pin the bridal bouquets on the donkey” games.

Sharon: Hey, that’s a really fun game.

[ Laughter ]

Mariah: Well, if you have any other artistic ideas, we’d be appreciative, because we have got a whole wedding to plan, and I’m only so creative

Lily: Hi. I’m your Auntie Lily. I’m sorry I woke you up. I didn’t know you were all snuggly in your little bed.

Devon: He was.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] I just came to talk to your… what do I call you, dad? Pops?

Devon: You can take it easy on that. No, it’s… I do wish that Dominic would’ve been able to meet his grandpa Neil, now that he legally has the Winters name.

Lily: Yeah. Well, I’m sure mom and dad are looking down at us, smiling.

Nikki: Oh, there you are.

Victor: Hi, sweetheart.

Nikki: I woke up when it was still dark outside, but you were up already.

Victor: Yeah, I’m just going over the newman/locke offer to buy newman media. And there’s something that we need to settle.

Nikki: Well, you did warn victoria not to low-ball you, and she certainly didn’T.

Victor: No, she didn’t low-ball at all. No, no. But there’s something that gives me a question.

Nikki: Are you worried about how adam will react if you accept it?

Victor: Well, to be frank with you, no matter what I do, one of my children will be unhappy.

Adam: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

Ashland: Hello, my beautiful wife.

Victoria: Oh. [ Chuckles ] You seem to be in a very good mood. I’ll assume it has something to do with the video chat you were having with harrison when I left this morning.

Ashland: Oh, I can’t tell you how it does my heart so good to see my son growing up so healthy and happy. I also had a very productive meeting with riley in marketing. I assigned him with the task of coming up with some branding ideas for our new digital sports media division, and, wow, did he knock it out of the park.

Victoria: You haven’t even discussed that division with me yet.

Ashland: What, you don’t have an issue with me setting this in motion, do you?

Lily: Well, thank you, patricia, for sending this over. ‘Cause organizing the data this way, it makes it much clearer to see where we can maximize our reach in the direction that we’re headed in. So, it’s perfect. Okay, well, thank the rest of the team for me. Bye.

[ Chuckles ] What?

Billy: How am I supposed to get anything done? I mean, I honestly can’t work under these conditions. You are the smartest, sexiest thing I’ve ever seen. And it makes it almost impossible to get anything done.

Lily: Well, I’m sorry.

[ Both laugh ]

Phyllis: Well, my plane gets in at about 11:00. So, should I get a car, or can you and kyle come pick me up? Ahh, I love that! Oh, summer, I can’t wait to see you. Okay, honey. I’ll talk to you later. Bye. Ohh.

Michael: Mm. I guess you’ve made up your mind about milan.

Phyllis: I’m just going to milan to check it out. It’s just an exploratory trip to see what this job has to offer me.

Michael: Mm.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm.

Michael: Well, I’m guessing spending time with summer will greatly influence your decision.

Phyllis: Michael, we both know that I’m old enough to make up my own mind about my life.

Michael: Well, you know where I stand. Your home’s here. Your base is here. Your friends are here.

Phyllis: My friends are here. Right. Really? Here in genoa city? What does genoa city have to offer me anymore? Hey, come here!

Phyllis: Hey, jack. When did you get back?

Jack: Late last night.

Phyllis: Ah. How was your trip?

Jack: Crazy, a little hectic, all to be expected with what kyle and I were trying to accomplish. But we pulled off a major coup for jabot european division, and — and I’m proud of that.

Phyllis: Ah, that sounds great. Congratulations.

Jack: Am I interrupting something here? I’d love to have a chance to talk.

Michael: Oh, yes. My, yes. You two really should chat. Phyllis has some news she would love to share with you.

Jack: Oh? What news it that?

Phyllis: Um… let’s talk in private. Let’s go upstairs.

Jack: I think that’s a good idea.

Lily: Well, I am very sorry I’m so distracting. I’ll really try to tone it down over here.

Billy: No, no, that is not a good option at all.

Lily: But I want you to be happy in your new position as coo.

Billy: Who said I’m not happy? I am very happy. What I am saying is that it’s not possible for me to be as productive as I should be because you are so devastatingly gorgeous.

Lily: Oh, okay. Well, I mean, what we could do is we could blindfold you.

Billy: Ooh.

Lily: [ Laughs ] No, actually, that would exacerbate the issue. Or, um — oh, I know. You could work in your own office.

Billy: Far too lonely down there.

Lily: Okay, fine. Um, I could read you this very dry report on integrated machining operations, but it might actually bore you to sleep.

Billy: I would assume that you would even make that sound hot and quite possibly put me over the edge.

Lily: Okay, then maybe we’ll save that for when we get home.

Billy: That’s it. There’s no way around this. I am just going to have to accept that you are [Sighs] Undeniably irresistible.

Lily: Well, I guess I’m cursed. Sorry.

Billy: Mmm.

Lily: Okay, but enough of this. We’re getting back to work.

[ Laughs ]

Nikki: I know how hard you’ve worked to make amends with adam. Buying newman media and putting him in charge was a big part of that. So I certainly understand why you would be concerned about his reaction if you should sell the company.

Victor: Well… knowing my son, he won’t react well to this.

Nikki: Well, if you don’t, victoria will be disappointed, but she’ll understand.

Victor: By the way, as coo of her company, why aren’t you pushing me harder to sell?

Nikki: Oh! Darling, I know you well enough to know that nobody sells you anything. You will do what you feel is right for the family, like you always have, and it will be your decision alone.

Victor: You’re right. And I have decided.

Victoria: I agree. It makes sense to get a head start on the branding of our digital sports media properties that we’ll be combining from chanccomm and newman media. I’m just a little surprised that you didn’t mention it to me.

Ashland: “Sportsball” isn’t a, uh, particular interest of yours, and I just wanted to pick up the ball and run with it, so to speak. And, frankly, I’m just glad that I have enough energy to pitch in and take something off of your plate.

Victoria: You know, if this deal does go through, technically sports media will fall under adam’s purview.

Ashland: If the deal goes through, adam will be working for us.

Victoria: In the beginning, i think it best that anything directed at him comes through me.

Ashland: And why would you say that?

Victoria: Because I know my brother. I know that he’s a manipulative schemer, and I don’t want him thinking that he can play us against one another.

Ashland: Well, I’m still on the board of directors at newman media, so adam is used to getting input from me. Not that I want to undercut your authority in any way, but it sounds as if I’ll be having less influence in the company once we own it again.

Victoria: That’s not what- I mean. What I’m saying is… we’re a team. We just — we need to present a united front at all times, especially where adam is concerned.

Ashland: So you don’t have a problem with me encroaching on your turf.

Victoria: Oh, come on. You know me better than that. I love seeing you this energized about work again. I really do. It reminds me of when we first met and I was making an offer for your company and you flirted with me.

Ashland: I did no such thing.

Victoria: You asked me to dinner.

Ashland: To close the deal, that’s all. And what difference does it make because you shot me down anyway?

Victoria: Yes. As I should. We hardly knew each other. But if you were to flirt with me now, you might get a different reaction.

Ashland: Is that so?

Victoria: Why don’t you try it and see? (Girl) hey guys, family hike starts… now!

Nick: You look like hell.

Adam: [ Sighs ] I, uh, so enjoy the warm, brotherly observations.

Nick: Alright, what do you got? What’s going on?

Adam: Just work stuff. It’s nothing worth talking about. What about you? How are the kids?

Nick: Everybody’s good. Just hooking up with noah. We’re gonna go over some new hope stuff. You did hear about that, right?

Adam: Yeah. Yeah, noah was kind enough to come by and explain. It’s great. Get to work with your son. He’s obviously jazzed about that, too. Thankfully, you’ve managed to not alienate him like dad has done with you sometimes.

Nick: Dad’s gonna be fine. I mean, he’s got you and vick working in the family businesses. He certainly doesn’t need me.

Adam: Mm. Our father doesn’t need anyone else, either. He goes out of his way to make that abundantly clear. But me and victoria — we keep jumping through hoops to try to win the old man’s approval. But at this point, I don’t even know why. But…too late to jump off the merry-go-round now, right?

Nick: No, it’s not, adam. If you want, you just jump off. Or you stick with it. Whatever. But don’t act like it’s not your choice. Good luck.

Ashland: That was a pleasant addition to the workday. I guess I didn’t realize what a vixen I had married.

Victoria: Come on. Don’t tell me you’re having regrets, are you?

Ashland: No, on the contrary. I’m delighted. I can’t wait to see what you’re gonna come up with next.

Victoria: Well, you’ll just have to because waiting

[Smooches] Is half the fun.

[ Both laugh ] Ooh. And while we were occupied, my father left me a text. He wants to meet and discuss the offer.

Ashland: Great. Let’s go.

Victoria: No, actually, i think I should handle this on my own. You understand, don’t you?

Ashland: Uh, didn’t you just get finished saying that we were a team?

Victoria: Yes, of course. But I know my father. You know, he tends to let his guard down around me.

Ashland: I see what you’re really up to. You want to take advantage of your father’s soft spot for his pride and joy.

Victoria: Would that be so wrong?

Ashland: [ Laughs ] Well, it’s shameless, but, uh, also highly effective. I guess I’ll just wait here for you.

Victoria: Okay. Wish me luck.

Phyllis: Well, I’m glad that your trip to milan was successful. Um…you know, I tried to get in touch with you, uh, when you were there. Did you get my — my texts or my messages?

Jack: Yeah, I did. I appreciated those.

Phyllis: Oh, great. You didn’t respond. Um…

Jack: Look —

Phyllis: Let’s — let’s just address what’s going on.

Jack: There were several times on this trip where i thought of reaching out to you, but I didn’t want to put you on the spot over the phone. I thought we should have this conversation in person.

Phyllis: Okay. Well, I — I know I hurt you when I didn’t come to your house for christmas eve.

Jack: Yeah, that was — that was a mistake. I didn’t mean to make you feel pressured.

Phyllis: I just kept telling myself that I just didn’t want to go through all of that with your family. You know what I mean. I’d be sitting there, and they would be asking, “why are you here? What’s going on between you and my brother?” And ashley’s accusing eye and the oh-so-protective traci.

Jack: But that isn’t the real reason you bailed, is it? Getting ready for a special day? Spice things up at adoreme.Com. With bras and lingerie in sizes up to 4x. Get on-trend bodysuits or lacy babydolls, just because. Valentine’s day special – sets start at just $19.95. That’s 60% off. Go to adoreme.Com now.

Phyllis: Um, hey, listen, i just — I can’t help the way i feel. I’M…scared of everything that’s happening. And I think that that’s why i can’t take the next step with you. I…respect you so much, and I’ve let you down so many times. And I’ve hurt you. And our friendship means everything to me.

Jack: I think I told you more than once you could take all the time you needed. We would still have a friendship.

Phyllis: I didn’t think you were being honest with me. And instead of letting that ignite my fears, it just paralyzed me. And then you didn’t respond to any of my messages, so I sort of came up with my own reasons why you left and… hey, I just don’t want to let you down. That’s it.

Jack: I really was called out of town on a business issue that required my going to new york and then paris and then milan.

Phyllis: Yeah. Well, I know that now. But I didn’t know it before, so… and then when summer called and offered me the job at marchetti, I thought, “great.” You know, there’s nothing for me —

Jack: Well, w-wait. What are you saying? You’re moving to milan?

Tessa: [ Sighs ]

Mariah: Wow. I have to say I am very overwhelmed.

Tessa: Yeah. I knew adoption could be complicated, but who knew how deep it could get?

Mariah: I mean, all of the information and the options and the decisions to be made.

Tessa: Well, maybe we should grab some coffee, compare our notes, just to give it some perspective.

Mariah: Yeah. I mean, usually I’d be loyal to crimson lights coffee, but i wanted to keep the prying eyes of my family from looking over our shoulder.

Tessa: You know we could run into them here, too.

Mariah: Yes. That’s true. But at least it’s a little less likely here. I’m gonna go wash my hands. If the waiter comes, just my usual.

Tessa: I don’t want to leave you like this. Are you sure you’re gonna be okay?

Noah: Why wouldn’t I be okay? When you love someone, you — you want them to be happy. And I love my sister, so, yeah, I’m fine.

Nick: Cost burden is when your rent or mortgage plus utilities equals up to 30% of the household income. Severe cost burden is when those expenses equal up to about 50% of the household income. Yo! Am I boring you?

Noah: No. No. Sorry. Sorry. I went out last night. Coffee hasn’t kicked in yet.

Nick: Yeah, your mom said you went out with some friends.

Noah: Yeah. It, uh, wasn’t my brightest idea, but I’m fine now. So, you were saying something about severe cost burden.

Billy: Oh, hey. Adam. It’s good to see you.

Adam: Wish I could say the same. Hey, do me a favor. Take it down a notch.

Billy: No can do, man. It’s the first month of the year. The future’s already looking bright. My kids are loving their school, lily is crushing it at chancellor, and I get to help her succeed.

Adam: And you’re satisfied with that?

Billy: Hell, yeah, I’m satisfied with that. Why wouldn’t I be? It’s a perfect fit for me. To be honest, I shouldn’t have played so hard to get for so long, but I think it worked out in my favor. She’s happy to have me there now.

Adam: Good for you.

Billy: Come on. It’s not so hard to be happy for me. You’re gonna be fine. You got a good kid. You’re living rent-free at the ranch, where officer rey and daddy can keep an eye on you. And you got a very prestigious job working for your daddy’s company, at least for now.

Adam: What are you getting at, billy?

Billy: Rumor has it victoria’s getting her hands on newman media. And you know your sister. She is your father’s daughter. She knows how to get what she wants.

Victor: Well, now, hello, my darling.

Victoria: Hello, dad. I’m so glad to see you. I’m sorry I didn’t respond to your text right away, but i stepped away from my phone. I’m very much looking forward to hearing what you think about my offer.

Victor: [ Sighs ] You did a lot of very good research, which I expected you to do. It’s a well-structured deal.

Victoria: Well, I’m very grateful that you’re pleased, but appreciating my offer and accepting it are not necessarily the same thing.

Victor: Mm-hmm. You’ll be happy to know that i am considering moving forward with the deal, except we have to clear one thing.

Victoria: I assume that this has to do with adam and what his role would be in the company.

Victor: When newman/locke takes over newman media, adam will continue as ceo of the company. And when newman/locke and newman media have merged, adam will take over chanccomm, as well. I thought you and I had made that clear, but I don’t see his name anywhere in the deal memo.

Victoria: Well, that’s because we weren’t sure about where things stood between the two of you. As far as we knew, you hadn’t even mentioned the possible sale to adam.

Victor: Ah, well, you let me deal with that, okay? Now, do you agree to my terms?

Victoria: Is there anything you’d like to add?

Victor: Yeah. Your father will continue in his advisory role to adam… as I’ve done with you.

Nikki: I assume victoria will need to take some time to consider what you’re asking.

Victoria: That’s not necessary. We have a deal.

Victor: Really? Well, my darling, come here. Now let’s shake on it. Did you know that even after you

sanitized,

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Nick: Next week, I’m bringing a few big projects in front of the county review board. Now, you’re gonna be there, but just observing, but I want you very comfortable with the process. We’re gonna be teaming up with the city council to tap into the affordable housing fund.

Noah: Hmm. That’s not gonna be enough to build on the scale you’re looking for.

Nick: That’s right. So we’re working with developers to combine local investments along with low income housing tax credits.

Noah: Okay. So, the apartments will be priced at 60% or less than the median income of the community?

Nick: That’s right.

Noah: Huh. What about the project turning the downtown hotel into affordable apartments? How does that process differ?

Nick: You know what? Let’s tackle that some other time. I’ve hit you with a lot of stuff today.

Noah: No, I’m good to keep going. This stuff’s fascinating. I can’t wait to see the apartments filled with tenants.

Nick: I don’t want to burn you out, son. I mean, you just got started. You are, uh — you know, you’re just a man. You’re not a machine.

Noah: Sometimes I think i operate better in machine mode. I was a little too human last night, and that was a big mistake.

Nick: How so?

Noah: I don’t really want to get into it. Suffice it to say that no one was hurt. It just wasn’t pretty. Enough said?

Nick: Yep.

Tessa: For some reason, i thought having all of our options laid out there would help narrow it down, but it sure didn’t work out that way.

Mariah: Yeah, it had exactly the opposite effect. I mean, I went there with images of babies on the brain. And don’t get me wrong. I would love a precious snuggling newborn in my arms to raise and nurture, but then seeing the photos and hearing the stories of the older kids going to their forever homes…

Tessa: I know. That affected me, too.

Mariah: And the thing is, we didn’t even need any of those stories. I mean, we already know my sister’s history. Cassie came to genoa city to be reunited with her birth mom and then found a whole new family. Nick adopted her, and the newmans accepted her like their own.

Tessa: Yeah, and we also have devon as an example. I mean, he was a teen when he got adopted into the winters family, and now you can’t picture them without him.

Mariah: So we’re agreed. Older kids are not off the table.

Tessa: Mm-hmm.

Mariah: But neither are babies.

Tessa: Mm-hmm.

Mariah: And everything in between, I guess.

Tessa: [ Sighs ] We’re gonna need a bigger table.

Mariah: Oh, my gosh, we are no closer to making a decision than when we started talking about all of this.

Tessa: Hey, don’t worry. Before you know it, we’re gonna find the right little person to love, that little boy, girl, or set of triplets.

Mariah: Okay, bite your tongue. You’re going too far.

[ Both laugh ]

Tessa: Well, whoever she or they are will bring us so much joy, and we’re gonna build them a loving, stable home.

Mariah: I love the idea of that. I mean, just imagine — grandma sharon.

Tessa: [ Laughs ]

Mariah: Grandpa nick,& auntie faith, uncle noah. What? Doesn’t that sound cool?

Tessa: Oh, yeah, it’s gonna be adorable.

Jack: I can think of a million different reasons why you would stay in genoa city and not move to milan.

Phyllis: Oh, well, i disagree. There’s nothing for me here. I mean, nick and I are over.

Jack: Yeah, and obviously you’ve decided to walk away from any potential between us.

Phyllis: The dynamic between us is very confusing to me. Quite honestly, it scares me. I don’t — I don’t know what we really want from each other in a relationship. We keep on missing the mark.

Jack: Yeah, I guess it’s hard to argue that. Well, uh, as exciting as it would be to be near summer and work with her, I — I get that. If that’s where your life is leading you, then you should follow your instincts. It isn’t like we’re not gonna see each other. I mean, as long as summer and kyle and my grandson are there, our paths will cross. When would you be going?

Phyllis: Um, a couple days. I’m just gonna go check it out to see if it’s even feasible.

Jack: Wow. Well, whatever it is, I’m sure you’ll make it work. I do have one request before you go.

Ashland: Well, I wasn’t expecting you back so soon. I hope that’s not a bad sign.

Victoria: No. Quite the opposite. Dad loved our offer.

Ashland: My goodness, you are brilliant, and I love you. Congratulations. You come sit right down and tell me everything, all the back-and-forth.

Victoria: Alright, well, i would be very happy to, although I’m not sure there’s much to tell. So, dad started in piling on the praises, which had me worried at first because I thought he was looking for a way to let me down easy. But then he indicated his willingness to accept the offer. And then he brought up adam, as we knew he would.

Ashland: And what was his position on that?

Victoria: It is still a deal breaker. We agree to keep adam on or dad takes his marbles and he goes home. But I was prepared for that, and I agreed right on the spot. And that’s it.

Ashland: So no sudden curve balls?

Victoria: No. No, no big problems.

Ashland: Well, just know that there’s plenty of time for that. And take my advice — it’s better not to schedule the next meeting at the ranch. It’s not a great idea to give victor the home-court advantage.

Victoria: I’m not sure I know what you mean. I’m not anticipating any more negotiations. We made the deal. It’s done.

Ashland: You finalized the deal without even discussing it with me? Plaque psoriasis, the burning, itching.

Phyllis: Oh, okay. Well, what is your request?

Jack: Well, now that we’ve, uh, cleared the air, I thought maybe we could have some dinner together. I just — I want to make sure that there’s no underlying tension, no residual anger or upset over us “missing the mark,” as you put it.

Phyllis: Listen, I’d love to have dinner with you. Um, I’m leaving in a couple days, so I don’t — I don’t think it’s possible. But when I get back, definitely. Um, I won’t be long.

Jack: I’ll be honest — I’m disappointed you can’t make time for me sooner, but I’ll look forward to that.

Phyllis: Me too.

Jack: So, what is this job?

Phyllis: Oh. It’s a great job. It’s, um — it’s in marketing. And, uh, it’s — it’s very high-level, completely in my skill set.

Jack: Yeah, well, whatever the details are, I’m — I’m sure you’ll shine.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ]

Jack: What about the hotel?

Phyllis: Well, I’ll find someone to run it. Or I’ll sell it. If somebody else runs it, i mean, I — I’ll still have it, and that would be my one connection to genoa city.

Jack: Well, I hope there’s more than one.

Phyllis: Every single family member of mine has left this town. What does that say about me?

Jack: I’m not gonna let you go down that road. You have bright, interesting, vibrant children who are living wonderful lives. I think that says wonderful things about you.

Phyllis: Thank you. You always know the right thing to say to me.

Jack: That’s because nobody knows you better, red.

Nick: Hey, did you follow up with the landscape architect about the idea of expanding the urban green space?

Noah: We’ve been playing a little bit of phone tag, but I’m excited to talk to her.

Nick: Ah, cool. I’m excited about it, too. Let’s talk later.

Noah: Yep.

Nick: I’m proud of you.

Noah: [ Sighs ] Hey, tess? You, uh — you got a minute? Hey.

Tessa: Hi.

Noah: Um…I just — I’d like to apologize about last night.

Tessa: No, you really don’t have to —

Noah: No, I think it’s pretty obvious that I do. I mean, look how uncomfortable you are with me now. That’s the last thing that i wanted.

Victoria: I’m surprised that you think there’s a need to go over the deal again.

Ashland: Well, it was one thing not to be invited to the meeting. I didn’t love it, but i understood the rationale. However, I assumed I would have the chance at least to weigh in before you closed the deal.

Victoria: But you did. You — you more than weighed in.& We drafted the offer together with our legal team. Dad didn’t add any changes, aside from the stipulation about adam, which you and I had discussed at length. So, what — what exactly would you amend?

Ashland: Well, we both know that bringing adam in is a risk. And we can’t rely on a hope and a prayer that he’s going to behave himself. If I had been given the chance, I would at least have recommended that we put some stipulations to keep him in line.

Victoria: Do you really think that’s needed?

Ashland: Well, definitely. I think that we need to make it unmistakably clear what are the limits to adam’s authority.

Victoria: You have a point, but in my opinion, it would have antagonized my father so much so that he would have called off the whole deal.

Ashland: No, sweetheart, that’s the whole point of negotiations. You get to press somebody to find out where their red lines are, you know, what their real goals are. What if victor’s plan is to pit you against adam, huh, like you’re a couple of gladiators entering an arena for his entertainment?

Victoria: Hold on a second. I’m not sure that’s where this is headed. But even if it were, you and i can handle adam on our own after we ensure that the sale goes through.

Ashland: You know, you might be putting yourself in a rather untenable situation here.

Victoria: It’s funny. A minute ago, you said I was brilliant.

Ashland: Well, that was before I realized you closed the deal. Sweetheart, I am just trying to protect you.

Nikki: Well, hello! I didn’t expect to see you two here. I thought you were out celebrating.

Victoria: Uh, well, ashland actually thinks we should have added something more specific to the contract where adam is concerned, just as a precautionary measure, of course.

Nikki: Would you like me to tell your father you need more time to discuss it?

Ashland: I’ll leave that up to you.

Victoria: No. I gave my father my word. And I’m not worried about adam. I can handle him. Now, if you’ll excuse me… life’s been hard enough.

Noah: I think it’s pretty obvious that I had too much to drink last night and maybe said a little bit too much, as well. I just really hope this doesn’t change anything between us, the three of us.

Tessa: Oh, no, of course not.

Noah: I hope you sincerely know how happy I am for you guys. It’s obvious how much you and mariah love each other. So I will never put you on the spot like that ever again. I promise.

Tessa: Look, we’ve been in each other’s orbit a lot lately. If it would help, I can give you some space.

Noah: I think it would be best if we just don’t make a big deal about it. Now, can we do that, just forget about it and move on?

Tessa: Okay. But I would hope that you would —

Noah: Hey. We’re good, okay? I’ll see you later.

Tessa: Okay. Bye.

Jack: Well, let me know when you’re back, and we’ll, uh, plan our dinner date.

Phyllis: You will be the first person I call. Yes?

Michael: You okay?

Phyllis: I’m fine. After talking to jack, I’m more confused about my feelings. I mean, the whole time I was telling him that I was leaving, I was hoping that he’d stop me.

Michael: But he didn’T.

Phyllis: No, he didn’T. Ah, it’s too late. I’m leaving.

Lily: You know, the way patricia’s team organized the numbers in this document, i think we have more wiggle room on this project.

Billy: Okay. Do you want to move some of the budget over to this edwards project?

Lily: Well, I mean, I think we could, but I think we should have some more research done just to make sure it’s fiscally responsible.

Billy: Okay. Sounds good. And last but not least, what do you want to do about this?

Lily: Uh, I think we should table this for now, just until we have some more information.

Billy: I think the information that we do have shows that that is a good opportunity, and if we don’t jump on it, our competitors will.

Lily: Yeah, I guess that’s a good point. Um, okay, yeah. Let’s, uh — let’s go for it then. See? I knew we could do this together.

Billy: Let me be very clear. You would be kicking ass in this position on this job with or without me, but I am very grateful that I’m on this adventure with you.

Lily: You sure? No regrets?

Billy: Not a one. I mean, what would I be doing? Chasing adam around, trying to get revenge? He’s gonna self-destruct at any point, probably sooner than later.

Lily: I know. You’re probably right — ’cause if he does end up working for victoria, those two are far from simpatico and definitely on a collision course.

Billy: I would say that’s an understatement. Adam is gonna lose his mind.

Adam: Look, here’s the thing. We will get more bang for our buck if we run ads with them. That is clearly the way to go.

[ Cellphone ringing ] So, um…does that make sense? Uh, I need to get back to you, okay? We will, uh, pick this up later. Alright.

[ Sighs ] To what do I owe this visit?

Victoria: I thought it was time for me to come and see what I’m getting for my money. Oh. Well, don’t tell me that I’m the first to break the news. Dad accepted newman/locke’s offer to buy newman media. It’s a done deal.

Next week on “the young and the restless”…

Ashland: You’re a brilliant doctor, but you need a new mountain to climb, and I think i have the perfect challenge for you.

Lauren: I’m still curious as to exactly what victor has you doing because this feels far more cloak and dagger than your typical legal maneuvering.

Victoria: I hope that you’re looking forward to working with me as much as I’m looking forward to being your boss.

Sharon: Oh, hey, Tessa, I was just thinking about you.

Tessa: Oh, really?

Sharon: Well, Rey and I were just talking about when you and Mariah adopt, and it got me thinking about where you’re at in the process. I mean, I know that adoption can be very complicated and challenging, but I’m always here to cheer you on if you need me.  Just wondering if there’s anything concrete I can do to help.

Tessa: Uh, I mean, not at the moment. We’re going to a seminar tomorrow to talk about all our different options. Domestic adoption, international, private, open versus closed, foster-to-adopt.

Sharon: Wow.  Sounds like you have a lot of decisions to make.

Tessa: But thank goodness that we joined this online support group.  People discuss their experiences, the good, the bad, the…

Sharon: Wow, that’s a great idea.  You know, to join a community of people who are willing to share, it creates a safe space for you to ask questions so you can get tips on how best to… Um, Tessa?

Tessa: Oh, Oh! I am so sorry. I did not mean to space out like that.

Sharon: You do seem a little distracted.  Is everything okay?

Tessa: Ugh. Word’s gonna get out.  Mariah got some news that hit her pretty hard. Yeah, Abby and Chance decided to let Devon have shared custody of Dominic. Which, look, I know that Mariah would’ve never tried to get custody, but still.

Sharon: That had to be really hard for her to hear.

[Door opens]

Sharon: Oh, Mariah, Tessa and I were just, uh —

Tessa: Oh, there you are.

Mariah: Can we talk, alone?

Devon: You like that? You like that, huh? [Chuckles] You having a good time, buddy?  It’s your first official stay, and we’re all very, very happy for you to be here. Amanda and your Uncle Moses…

Amanda: Mm-hmm. And Daddy.

Devon: Didn’t really mean to say that in front of Abby and Chance.

Amanda: I know.

Devon: It’s just the most natural feeling in the world, having my son here with me, you know? Oh, buddy.

Amanda: I love seeing you hear like this.  Filled with so much joy.

Devon: I can’t believe it’s actually happening. [Chuckles]

Amanda: I know, me neither. But I can’t be happier for you.

Devon: Well, we’re pretty happy, too, aren’t we, buddy? Hmm?

Amanda: I know how much tonight means to you, and, uh, I want you to know that I really appreciate being a part of it.

Devon: Well, I can’t thank you enough for making this first visit happen and for everything going so smoothly.

Amanda: Well, I think we need to thank Abby and Chance. Yeah, they gave us everything that we needed, everything that he’s used to, down to his favorite strained peaches.

[Both laugh]

Amanda: And laying out his whole routine in writing. Um, speaking of which, I hate be the bearer of bad news, but, according to the schedule, it is this little guy’s bed time.

Devon: Is that right?

Amanda: Yeah.

Devon: You hear that? I don’t think he’s ready.

Amanda: [Chuckles]

Devon: Before we tuck you in, though, we have one very important step to add to the schedule.

Abby: [Sighs] I know. I know I am driving you crazy. I’m driving me crazy. I am so used to my whole day being structured around Dominic, and now that I have a free evening —

Chance: You don’t know what to do with yourself. Yeah, I get it.

Abby: I guess I could go down to Society, try to get some work done, but I think it’s too late to get anything accomplished, and my mom and Uncle Jack are still out of town, which reminds me, we really need to fill everyone in now that this whole thing is official. I mean, what if someone sees Devon with our son?  I mean, they might have some questions.

Chance: [Sighs]

Abby: I’m sorry. I know, I know I’m rambling.

Chance: Hey. Hey. Look, I understand this is all happening way sooner than you expected, but I promise you, it’s gonna get easier as we go. Okay? And you get to formulate his schedule. And you’ll get to plan everything, just like you like. I know that’s your comfort zone.

Abby: Yeah.

[Cellphone rings]

Nope, nope, nope, nope. I cannot deal with anyone right now. No.

Chance: [Laughs] I don’t think you’re gonna miss this one.

Devon: Dominic, look who it is. Say hi to Mommy.

Abby: Oh. [Chuckles]

Abby: Hi, baby, hi.

Chance: Hey.

Abby: You about to go to bed?

Devon: Yeah, we are. That’s why we called to say good night to you guys.

Abby: How’s he settling in?

Devon: Oh, he’s doing great. Just great.

Abby: Is he eating okay? Any problems with his colic?

Devon: No, no trouble at all. He’s — he’s — he ate. He’s been just perfect.

Chance: Well, we are glad to hear that.

Devon: Oh, it’s ’cause of you, Abby, everything you gave us, the list that you made.

Dominic: [Coos]

Devon: See?

Dominic: [Coos]

Devon: That’s right. According to your schedule, now I think I need to be putting him down to bed. Right?

Chance: Well, thank you for calling so we could say good night.

Devon: Oh, of course, man. Absolutely.

Abby: Okay, Dominic. Um…Be good for Devon. We love you. We’ll see you in the morning.

Chance: We love you, buddy. Sweet dreams.

Abby: Sleep and dream, the happily day. The bright, bright moon will guide your way. Good night, my angel.

Devon: Alright, good night, guys.

Abby: Bye.

Chance: Bye.

Devon: [Chuckles]

Abby: [Sighs]

Tessa: Well, I know that we said that we would discuss wedding plans tonight, but if you’re not up to it —

Mariah: I went for a walk for a little bit. I did some thinking, so just close your eyes.

Tessa: Okay.

Mariah: Alright, keep them closed.

Tessa: Okay.

Mariah: Keep them closed. Alright, this way. Here we go.

Tessa: Oh, dear.

Mariah: Oh, god. Oh, god.

[Both laugh]

Mariah: Keep going, keep going. Come on, right through there. Right through there.

Tessa: [Laughs]

Mariah: You’re doing great. Do you remember our first date?

Tessa: Yeah, of course. The movie at the Athletic Club.

Mariah: Right. Open your eyes.

Tessa: Oh. A movie under the stars.

Mariah: I am glad that you got that. I’m no astronomer, so these lights were the best that I could do to recreate the evening.

Tessa: They’re perfect.

Mariah: That was the first time that we told each other how we really felt.  My heart was racing. I was so scared and I didn’t know if you felt the same way.

Tessa: It was like that for me, too.

[Both laugh]

Mariah: Well, I knew that it could possibly change my life forever — in the best possible way. Then there was that night where we needed to just get away for a little bit, and we drove out of the city.

Tessa: Yeah.

Mariah: Yeah, we found this amazing little field and we just laid there.

Tessa: Hmm, I’m sensing a theme.

[Both laugh]

Mariah: Yeah. And we were there for hours and hours, just looking up at the stars, trying to remember the names of the constellations. And then making up stories to go along with them.

Tessa: Oh, my gosh, those were so hilarious.

Mariah, I imagined you up there with a winged helmet and a breastplate, kind of like a Valkyrie.

Tessa: And there you were on a massive bike, like a Hell’s Angel, chasing off a cult leader into the ends of the universe.

Mariah: Exactly. Stories about overcoming everything that life threw at us.  Not letting people get us down, not backing down. And it became our story, written in the stars. So that’s what I thought about while I was walking. About how you’re ready to embark on this journey with me, no matter how hard it might be. The love of my life.

Tessa: Oh, Mariah. [Chuckles]

Mariah: Before you put the ring on your finger, there is something that I have been dying to ask for so long. Bear with me.

Tessa: [Chuckles]

[Both laugh]

Mariah: Tessa Porter, will you marry me?

Tessa: Yes!

Mariah: Yeah?

Tessa: Yes, love of my life. Yes, of course!

[Both laugh]

Mariah: Okay, put it on. Put it on.

[Both laugh]

Tessa: Oh, my gosh!

Mariah: Oh!

Tessa: Oh, I love you.

Mariah: I love you, too.

[ Both laugh ]

Sharon: Oh, my gosh, you two, what a sweet, romantic proposal!

Tessa: Aww.

Sharon: It was so beautiful.

Mariah: Oh, thanks, Mom.

Sharon: Yeah, I couldn’t tear my eyes away. Sorry I was peeking, but when I saw all the twinkling lights.

[ Laughter ]

Tessa: It’s cool, I’m used to having an audience.

Sharon: Well, let me see! Let me see the ring. [ Gasps ] Oh, my gosh, that’s beautiful.

Tessa: Oh, it is, right? It’s really me.

Sharon: Well, now we seriously need to start talking about wedding plans.

Mariah: Well, Tessa and I were talking earlier, and we didn’t come up with any conclusions.

Tessa: [ Laughs ]

Mariah: Hey, Noah! Noah, don’t go, come on!

Tessa: Hi.

Noah: I don’t want to intrude.

Mariah: No, no, your timing couldn’t be more perfect. Yeah, come on in here. We’re gonna go into full party-planning mode, so come on.

Noah: Okay.

Sharon: My oldest daughter is getting married! I’m so excited.

Mariah: Really? Wow, I mean, I don’t think any of us could tell.

Sharon: [ Laughs ] Alright, first things first, can I throw you two an engagement party?

Tessa: You know, that’s so sweet of you, Sharon, but…

Mariah: But I think that seems traditional.

Sharon: Okay, so in other words…

Tessa: Not really us.

Mariah: And plus, it always seems like those parties are an excuse to just get more gifts.

Sharon: Well, we can write “no gifts” on the invitation. To me, this is more of a family milestone. It’s a reason to celebrate and have fun, and, if you want, to play games.

Mariah: No, no, yeah, I don’t think that’s — that’s really the vibe that we’re — we’re going for.

Sharon: Fine by me. So what about some toasts? You two can tell everyone about your proposal.

Noah: Proposals. Plural, which makes for a pretty cool story.

Tessa: [ Laughs ]

Noah: That’s very you, very “Teriah.”

Mariah: Ah.

Sharon: Teriah?

Noah: Yeah, it’s what Tessa’s fans call her and Mariah online.

Sharon: Love it. So cute.

Noah: I came across it when I was doing some research for the album cover.

Mariah: That makes sense.

Sharon: What about a theme? Do you two want a theme?

Mariah: Okay, Mom, Mom, I love you and I love your excitement, but all of these things that you guys are throwing out, it just — it doesn’t really seem like us.

Tessa: Yep.

Noah: I think I got it, you know, the perfect way to celebrate your engagement.

Devon: Oh, buddy, I don’t have any more tricks, man. What do you —

Amanda: He still can’t sleep?

Devon: No. He still can’t. If this singing teddy bear can’t do the trick, I don’t know what will.

Amanda: I know I saw him yawn when you were on the phone with Abby and Chance.

Devon: Yeah, no, he’s definitely tired. He just — he can’t get over the hump. He keeps nodding off and waking himself up, and…he’s just not settling in yet. Only thing I can think of is maybe he’s picked up on the tension between us all when we got him from Abby and Chance’s, but…

Amanda: Or maybe you are just overthinking things and he’s just doing what babies do.

Devon: Yeah, maybe. Be a lot easier if you could tell us what’s going on, man. Just got to get acclimated, that’s all, just like the rest of us, right? It’s okay. It’s okay, I’m right here.

Chance: Well, that made me feel a lot better, seeing Dominic all safe and cozy over there. You felt that, too, yeah?

Abby: Yeah. I did. I mean, I wouldn’t be able to share custody with Devon if I didn’t think that he was capable, but it’s just — it’s such a strange feeling, not having Dom to plan my evening around. I mean, typically, I’m on red alert, you know? I’m listening to the monitor, waiting to hear him cry. You know, I have to feed him and bathe him, get him ready for bed and kiss his little forehead good night. And now…well, I guess I just have to get used to it. Days and nights without my son. I guess this is just our new normal.

Chance: Hey, let me prove to you that this doesn’t have to be just some weekly ordeal that we — that we get through, alright? It can be something special. I’ll prove it to you.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Mariah: So what is this great idea? Spill.

Noah: Well, instead of a traditional engagement party, why don’t we have a listening party for Tessa’s new album?

Tessa: No.

Noah: Why not?

Tessa: Because then it’ll be about me and not us as a couple.

Sharon: She does have a point.

Noah: Tess, every track on that album is about love — your love for Mariah. I mean, even the photo I used for the cover, you said you were thinking about her when I took it. That’s why it came out so perfect, ’cause you were filled with such genuine emotion.

Tessa: That is true. I mean, falling in love with you and growing in our relationship, it helped me find my voice. The album is basically just one long love poem.

Mariah: Well, then I think my brother is onto something.

Sharon: Now that I’ve heard more, I agree.

Mariah: And there is a built-in theme.

Noah: See, it’s not about putting you in the spotlight. It’s about both of you and your love, and it should be expressed in the most authentic and beautiful way there is.

Mariah: Now, that is an engagement party that I can get behind.

Tessa: Me, too. I love it.

Chance: I know you had to carry so much on your own while I was away. But now I want you to just brush off all that weight and all that worry. Brush it off these beautiful little shoulders of yours. I want that to remind you that you’re not alone. And whatever you’re going through, doesn’t matter how tough it is, I want us to keep our connection. Okay?

Abby: [ Sighs ] I needed this. I need you.

Chance: Well, I’m right here. I’m all yours. I’m not just talking, Abby. I want to make some time for us like this as often as I can. I want to show you how much you mean to me.

Abby: Yeah, I like the sound of that. [ Sighs ] I’ve been so stressed and on alert. Thank you…for reminding me to slow down. You know, this gives me hope that we can not only survive but thrive as a couple and a family.

Chance: You better believe it. Gah. I’ll tell you, every single time I think about how hard you fought to hold us together, I mean, it just amazes again and again. Abby, you have so much strength and you have so much heart. It’s because of you, my loving, tenacious, beautiful wife, that I’m here, back in Genoa City, alive and well. I promise you I’m gonna be the man you need me to be. Okay? I will be the father and the husband that I’m supposed to be.

Devon: I can watch him sleep all day.

Amanda: He really is the luckiest baby alive. He has so many people in his corner, just loving and protecting him.

Devon: Yeah. It’s always gonna be really important to me that he grows up in a happy and stable environment.

Amanda: Should we try and get some sleep now that we can?

Devon: Maybe.

[ Knock on door ]

Devon: No. No, no, no.

Dominic: [ Crying ]

Lily: Hi, I hope it’s not too late. I just really wanted to see Dom.

Dominic: [ Crying ]

Lily: Sorry, was that me? [ Chuckles ] Sorry.

Devon: It’s okay.

Mariah: That is a great concept, Noah. Thank you for helping us brainstorm. And you probably saved us from some “pin the bridal bouquets on the donkey” games.

Sharon: Hey, that’s a really fun game.

[ Laughter ]

Mariah: Well, if you have any other artistic ideas, we’d be appreciative, because we have got a whole wedding to plan, and I’m only so creative.

Noah: Uh, some other time, maybe. I actually got to take off.

Mariah: Where are you headed?

Noah: I’m getting some drinks with friends, so I’m sure you guys can take it from here.

Mariah: Alright, you’re excused.

Tessa: Thank you again, Noah. It was such a good idea.

Noah: Just had a look at what’s right in front of me. Anyways, I’ll see you guys later.

Mariah: Yeah. Oh, and if there’s anything else you think of, just let us know, okay?

Sharon: Bye, Noah.

Noah: Bye, Mom.

Sharon: Well, now we get to plan two events.

Mariah: Okay, before you get revved up about this again, please don’t go overboard with this engagement, please.

Tessa: Yeah, I mean, Mariah’s right. I mean, you know, no matter what kind of wedding we have, I do know that it won’t be at the palazzo in Italy.

Mariah: Although a spaghetti dinner sounds so good right now.

Tessa: Oh, gosh, spaghetti with, like, garlic and olive oil and maybe a Caesar salad.

Mariah: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Wait, did I forget to feed you?

Tessa: Well, you haven’t eaten yet either, have you? Why don’t I get us something from Society? And instead of spaghetti, maybe some ropa vieja.

Mariah: Oh, yes, yes, that sounds good.

Tessa: Okay. Oh, okay. Alright, well, I will see you soon.

Mariah: Yeah.

Tessa: Okay. I love you.

Devon: Yeah.

Lily: [ Gasps ] Look. Looks like they worked some of their angel magic. [ Chuckles ]

Devon: He’s dozing off.

[ Laughter ]

Moses: Hey, guys. Um, we just got back from dinner. I hope you don’t mind, I invited Faith over.

Faith: Oh, yeah, we’re celebrating our four-month anniversary.

Moses: Yeah, and I thought she would like a sneak peek of —

Devon: That’s…

Faith: Oh, no.

Moses: Oops. Sorry, I didn’t realize Dom would be here.

Devon: No, it’s okay. Your nephew’s gonna be visiting a lot more, ’cause this is his second home now.

Abby: Chance? What’s wrong?

Abby: Hey. What’s wrong? Who’s the letter from?

Chance: It’s — it’s no one you know.

Abby: Well, there are tears in your eyes. Is it bad news?

Chance: [ Sighs ] It’s from a woman in Florida. Her husband was with me in Valencia.

Abby: Okay, well, what did she write?

Chance: I sent her money for the funeral, so she — she thanked me for that. And, uh…”for giving our family much-needed moral support during this tremendously difficult time.”

Abby: Oh. I didn’t realize that you had reached out to her that way.

Chance: Yeah. Everyone that was with me in Spain, I tried to contact their families, make sure they have everything they need.

Abby: Oh. That’s so generous.

Chance: I had to do something. I was able to walk away and come home to you, and they… well, they didn’t.

Abby: Well, what else did she write in the letter?

Chance: Um… “I can’t tell you how much it meant to learn that the perpetrators were convicted and sent to prison, and Justin’s sacrifice wasn’t in vain. He was so proud to be protecting our nation, and he knew that the work he did was valued. You asked if there was anything more that you could do for Becca and me, and there is one thing. Stop feeling guilty for having survived. Stop second-guessing your actions over there. None of this was your fault. The feds and the state department both said it, and now I’m saying it. Please find a way to be as generous with yourself as you’ve been with my little girl and me. My husband always thought the world of you. Find a way to make peace with this in your own heart. And live your life with purpose and be happy. I know Justin would want that for you, too.”

Abby: Please…look, I hope that you — you really listen to the words that she wrote you. And stop blaming yourself. None of this is your fault.

Chance: That woman’s a widow now. Kid doesn’t have a father. How am I just supposed to move on, let that go?

Moses: Shared custody? Wow.

Faith: I heard Mariah and Tessa talking about it, but I had no idea it’d happen this fast.

Devon: Yeah, I didn’t want to say anything at first, ’cause I didn’t know how things were gonna play out, but after Abby and Chance and I came to an agreement, I-I just couldn’t wait to get Dominic over here.

Faith: Mm.

Amanda: It will take a while for the paperwork to get finalized, though.

Devon: Yeah, and we’re looking at probably just one overnight a week.

Moses: Cool, so we’ll have more of a head’s up next time.

Devon: You will, definitely.

Faith: Well, I’m glad you’re able to figure things out and everyone feels good about it.

Devon: Yeah, me, too. Me, too.

Faith: Can we see him?

Devon: Sure you can see him. Just got to —

Faith: Be super quiet, I know.

Devon: Yeah, good.

Lily: So, how does it feel having a new baby in the mix?

Amanda: I love it. It’s — I don’t know, there’s something wonderful about seeing Devon with his child. Brings him so much joy.

Lily: Yeah, I know what you mean.

Amanda: And I know that this was the right thing to do. I’m happy that I was able to help get everything to this point without taking it in front of a judge.

Lily: Oh, my god, that would’ve been a nightmare.

Amanda: Yeah, tell me about it. Now at least they get a chance to bond. Avoiding all of that.

Lily: Well, you’ll bond with Dom, too. I mean, how could you not? He’s such an adorable little baby.

Amanda: Yeah, I’m sure I will.

Devon: I don’t mean to break up the party, but I have to get Dominic to sleep.

Moses: Hopefully he’s asleep for the rest of the night.

Devon: Yeah, or at least until his 3:00 A.M. Feeding.

Faith: [ Chuckles ]

Moses: Are you okay with taking a rain check on Tessa’s new album?

Faith: Uh, I should be getting home anyways. Mom’s gonna be like, “school night.”

Lily: Yeah, I’m gonna get going, too.

Devon: Okay.

Lily: And I’ll come back next time Dom’s here, and that way I can get some more baby time in.

Devon: Yeah.

Lily: But I’m really happy for you.

Devon: Thank you.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Um, do you need a ride anywhere?

Faith: Uh, drop me at Crimson Lights?

Lily: Yeah, of course.

Moses: Okay, cool, I’ll walk you guys to your car.

Lily: Okay, thank you.

Devon: See you guys.

Lily: See you.

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Amanda: It was really nice to see you, lily.

Lily: You too. Bye.

Amanda: Bye.

Devon: Ooh, there we go. It’s okay, it’s okay. Ready to go to your own room?

Dominic: [ Cries ]

Devon: It’s okay, it’s okay. Daddy’s gonna tuck you in. It’s okay. It’s okay. It’s alright. I know. I know.

Noah: Where’d you come from?

Tessa: Uh, my car.

Noah: Where’s Mariah?

Tessa: She’s still at the coffee house. I just came to pick up some dinner.

Noah: You mean you guys are in two separate places, huh? [ Chuckles ]

Tessa: Bizarre, I know.

Noah: Yeah, it is. I’m used to seeing the Teriah unit.

Tessa: Well, I’m surprised that you’re here alone. I thought you were meeting some friends.

Noah: Huh. I guess my friends must’ve bailed on me.

Tessa: So the party went on without them?

Noah: I am just continuing the happy celebration of the happy couple. It’s a great idea for the engagement party, right?

Tessa: Why don’t you let me take you home?

Noah: That’s not a good idea.

Devon: Ah.

Amanda: Look at this.

Devon: Do you hear that?

Amanda: What? I don’t hear anything.

Devon: Exactly.

Amanda: Oh, ’cause little Dom is snoozing away. Look at you, you rose to the occasion once again.

Devon: Oh, thanks to you.

Amanda: I didn’t do anything. That was all you.

Devon: Mnh-mnh. You made this whole first visit possible.

Amanda: I can’t even take the credit for that. That was you. It was your love, your friendship, your strength of character that got Abby and Chance to come around. Devon, you handled a really delicate situation with so much maturity and patience. I could not be more proud of you.

Devon: Well, I’m still grateful for you, for all the support you’ve given me through all this. And for welcoming Dominic into this house with open arms. I find that very, very attractive.

Amanda: Mm-hmm.

[ Chuckles ]

Dominic: [ Crying ]

Devon: Oh, no. Oh. I think someone had too much excitement today.

Amanda: Mm. Sounds like it.

Devon: Yeah. I’ll be right back.

Amanda: Mm. Do you need some help?

Devon: No, no, you enjoy your wine. I got this.

Amanda: I know you do. And I find that incredibly attractive.

Devon: Well, I’ll be back.

Amanda: [ Chuckles ]

Chance: I understand that nobody blames me, but I still blame myself. I can’t erase that memory of that night. My entire team was killed in what was supposed to be our safe house. Makes me feel sick, knowing that I failed them and I failed the mission.

Abby: [ Sighs ] I know that you’re going through hell. And that this is torture for you. But together, we’re gonna find what you need to cope, to heal, to get to the other side.

Chance: I have exactly what I need right here. All I need is you, Abby. That’s it.

Faith: Hey, guys.

Mariah: Hey, Faith.

Sharon: Hi. How was your date with Moses?

Faith: So nice. We had a great time. He invited me to go back to Devon’s place to listen to some music, but it didn’t happen.

Sharon: Why not?

Faith: Uh, when we got back to the penthouse, Dominic was there for a visit. Like, overnight. And Devon didn’t want to make much noise, so the baby could sleep. Uh, he said it was gonna be a regular thing. My little cousin’s gonna be living with him part-time.

Mariah: You don’t seem surprised.

Sharon: No, Tessa mentioned it to me before you arrived earlier. We were talking about the adoption. Are you okay?

Mariah: You know, when I first heard about Abby and Chance giving some custody to Devon, I — I felt a pang. But then I really had time to think about it, and I was able to make a mental shift. And considering how much Chance is struggling since he’s been back, I really think this is what is in the best interest for the baby. Devon is gonna be a great bonus dad. And Tessa and I are gonna have a child of our own. [ Chuckles ]

Noah: [ Sighs ]

Tessa: Hey, Noah. Let me just —

Noah: It’s late. You guys must be starving. I don’t want to impose on your dinner, so, please, just…

Tessa: Okay, well, just let me call you a car, then.

Noah: No, I can get myself home. Thank you, though.

Tessa: Noah.

Noah: Tessa, I promise I’m not gonna drive, okay? There’s nothing for you to worry about.

Tessa: I don’t want to leave you like this. Are you sure you’re gonna be okay?

Noah: Why wouldn’t I be okay? When you love someone, you — you want them to be happy. And I love my sister, so, yeah, I’m fine.

Victoria: Again, what makes you think that?

Billy: Because I can see it in you. You get that look in your eye when you get all pumped up about a big deal.

Victoria: Oh, please. I run a major conglomerate. We have several deals on the table at any given moment.

Billy: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, but I doubt any of those deals are gonna give you the same thrill as kicking your brother to the
curb.

******************

Adam: [ Clears throat ] It just — it sure feels like you’re trying to send me a message, and, I mean, is t
his you expressing your disapproval with me?

Victor: I got to be honest with you. I was rather disappointed when you didn’t see through Billy Abbott’s pitiful attack on our company. Took Victoria to step in and stop him.

Adam: Okay, I had no intention of publishing anything about Billy.

Victor: This is water under the bridge, son. This discussion is not related to that. This is about business.

Adam: Then what is your problem with me? Huh?

[ Scoffs ] I mean, after everything that I did to make our launch go smoothly. I successfully established the fashion platform. I negotiated this collaboration deal with Nicholas and New Hope. Not to mention all the advertising dollars that i brought in. I mean, every goal was hit at every level.

Victor: I agree with you. That is why your sister will make us a substantial offer.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Okay.

[ Stammers ] Oh, I guess Nicholas was right. No good deed goes unpunished in this family.

Victor: This has nothing to do with punishment.

Recap written by Eva

Dominic has a hard time falling asleep on his first overnight visit at Devon’s place.

Abby continues to have doubts about giving Devon shared custody of Dominic but she does a good job of hiding her feelings for Chances sake.

Chance gets a letter from the wife of one of his team members thanking him for paying for her husband’s funeral. The letter also says that Chance shouldn’t blame himself for what happened on the mission and he should be happy because that is the best way to honor the lives of the members of his team. Abby is touched when Chance reads her the letter and tells Chance they will get him the professional help he needs to cope with his feelings but Chance tells Abby that he only needs her help and support.

Mariah and Tessa love Noah’s idea that they should have a listening party for Tessa’s new album to celebrate their engagement. Noah goes to Society to drown his sorrows because he is in love with Tessa and Tessa is marrying Mariah. Tessa sees Noah getting drunk and he tells her he is celebrating her and Mariah’s engagement. Tessa offers to drive Noah home but he says that would not be a good idea and then leaves promising Tessa he will not drive home.

Phyllis: You’re lovely. Ohh. Amanda, you’re my only friend here. You are. You’re my only friend. Michael and Lauren, that’s it.

Amanda: Phyllis, I think that you are purposely leaving out a few people.

Phyllis: Who? Who am I leaving out?

Amanda: I don’t know, Jack? Nick?

Phyllis: They’re not friends. They’re my ex-husbands.

[ Laughs ] I mean, Nick has made it clear he doesn’t want to be a pal. And then Jack, he’s not even — he’s not even talking to me.

Adam: You do realize that our father, Victor Newman, is the primary financial backer of Newman Media, right? And last time that I checked, my last name is Newman, as well.

Victoria: Yes, I’m aware of that. But we probably shouldn’t be discussing this right now. Why don’t you have your lawyer call my lawyer? I mean, surely you’ve dealt with enough legal issues in your life to know that’s how it works.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Well, I wanted to hear whatever absurd explanation there was for this lawsuit from the horse’s mouth.

Victoria: Oh, okay. Well, since you’re here, I might as well lay it out for you. The media division at Newman Enterprises existed long before you even knew you shared our last name.

Adam: Oh, you’re talking about the division that you sold.

Victoria: The one that we’re buying back. Ashland and I have decided that we are gonna rename ChanceCom Newman Media. I mean, the name only makes sense now that we’re bringing the division back into the Newman fold. Come on, it would be problematic having two Newman Medias out there operating in the world, don’t you think?

Adam: [ Chuckles ] I think you’ve gone insane.

Sally: I’m back. Did you miss me? I’m totally energized by my trip from New York.

Adam: [ Clears throat ]

Sally: Super productive and super fun, but it would’ve been even better if you had joined me.

Adam: Come on in.

Sally: So I was going to get you a souvenir like an Empire State Building snow globe or a Statue of Liberty keychain, but I decided that you didn’t deserve it. You need to come with me next time and buy your own trinkets, but if you do come with me, nothing romantic. Got it, bucko?

Adam: I’ll try to restrain myself. So trip was productive?

Sally: Very.

Adam: Well, that’s good. I would hate to spend money on frivolous business trips.

Rey: What’s so funny?

Sharon: Mariah. She’s sending me ideas for venues for her wedding.

Rey: That’s funny?

Sharon: Well, because it’s Mariah.

Rey: Of course.

Sharon: So far, she has suggested a recording studio, the old GC Buzz Studio, and a tattoo parlor.

Rey: She and Tessa want to get inked while they’re reciting their vows?

Sharon: I think she’s joking, but I can’t be sure.

Rey: Mm, because it’s Mariah.

Sharon: Well, all of those places do represent moments in their love story, so I wouldn’t put it past them, but I just hope they don’t make this decision quickly or take it lightly because I want them to have the wedding of their dreams

Billy: Looks like we’re both in need of a coffee fix this morning.

Victoria: Did johnny and katie wake you up this morning, too?

Billy: Yes, they did. I was video-chatting with them before I was even out of bed.

Victoria: Me too. So how are you doing? How are you liking your new role at chancellor industries?

Billy: I’m doing great. I’m loving it. Learning a lot. And it’s been very easy. Lily’s transition into the ceo position has been very smooth. Even the people that made up their mind, didn’t want to support her, can’t help themselves.

Victoria: Yes, well, I’ve been there. It’s a very daunting spot to be in. But if anyone can thrive under than kind of pressure, it’s lily. I think jill made the right choice.

Billy: Yeah, there’s no doubt my mother’s very proud of the job that she is doing. And so am I. And I’m the lucky one that helps execute her vision. I assume it’s much like, you know, the way it is between you and ashland.

Victoria: Ashland is more of a ceo emeritus. He’s my most trusted advisor, and my mother is my coo.

Billy: [ Sighs ] It’s amusing how you feel the need to point out he’s not your subordinate. I guess those small, little details matter to some people.

Victoria: It’s not an issue for us.

Billy: Well, that’s good, right? But I guess you can’t deny the fact that your recent success has a lot to do with his support. I mean, the lawsuit he hurled at chanccomm was the reason that my mother had to sell the company. And with him being on the board at newman media, his insight will be invaluable to you when you buy them out.

Victoria: Yes. Yes, ashland would be a very valuable asset if that was what I was still planning to do.

Billy: Aren’t you?

Victoria: What would make you think that?

Billy: Because you were willing to conspire with me to get your hands on that company. And you’re not gonna walk away from that.

Adam: You’re considering selling newman media to victoria? Hmm. Well, I’m the ceo, so when were you planning on bringing me into this discussion?

Victor: Well, son, victoria came to me with a proposal only a few days ago, and I thought there was no sense in broaching that subject with you because i thought it was premature. Nothing would come of it.

Adam: Oh, she’s very much expecting something to come from it. Last time I talked to her, she was almost unbearably smug, as if she had a delightful secret that I wasn’t privy to, and, apparently, she did. Okay, it must have been obvious to her that you were keeping me out of the loop.

Victor: You can’t blame her for getting her hopes up, you know? I mean, acquiring newman media shortly after the chanccomm acquisition, I mean, that would create a formidable company, you know? It would make newman/locke the powerhouse in the media business.

Adam: Yes, I’m very aware of what it would mean for her, but the question is, what would it mean for me?

Lily: It’s so funny, I was gonna call you when I got your text, ’cause I wanted to hear the latest about dominic. I hope you have good news.

Devon: Yeah, well, abby, chance, and I had a conversation yesterday, and they basically came around and agreed to let me have shared custody.

Lily: Really?

Devon: Yeah.

Lily: Oh, my god, devon, that’s amazing. Congratulations.

Devon: Thank you.

[ Chuckles ]

Abby: Look at you. You got such a big appetite today. That’s a good thing. That’s gonna help you get big and strong. So, mommy has something to tell you. You know how you went to go stay with — yeah, with devon and amanda and moses while mommy was gone for a few days? Well, you were such a sweet boy that they just fell in love with you, and so now devon is gonna have a special room just for you at his house. Yeah. And I think you’re gonna really enjoy yourself because devon, he loves you so much. He loves you so much. Yeah. And he — he knows what makes you laugh and what games you like to play. And he knows all your favorite music. And he has lots of new toys for you. So I don’t think there is anything to worry about. I think you’re gonna have a really good time. I think that spending more time with devon, it’s gonna be a good thing. Yeah.

Billy: I haven’t forgotten how eager you were to get your hands on newman media during that brief sliver of time that we were conspiring together.

Victoria: Need I remind you that that period of time was so brief because you backed out and decided to go work for lily, so that plan is dead.

Billy: Yeah, that one is. But I know you, victoria. You’re not gonna give up that easily.

Victoria: Again, what makes you think that?

Billy: Because I can see it in you. You get that look in your eye when you get all pumped up about a big deal.

Victoria: Oh, please. I run a major conglomerate. We have several deals on the table at any given moment.

Billy: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, but I doubt any of those deals are gonna give you the same thrill as kicking your brother to the curb.

Victoria: You know what it sounds like? It sounds like you’re projecting your craving for revenge right back on me.

Billy: Oh, no. No, I let go of all that. And I think you should, too, because it’s not worth it. Victoria, I was this close to falling back into the abyss. Even with jack and traci trying to steer me in the right direction, I was hell-bent on wanting my revenge on adam. I didn’t want to hear it from them, but yet, finally, I came to my senses. This is coming from a place of genuine concern.

Victoria: No, it’s more like a place of genuine jealousy. You have been dreaming of this moment. It’s getting to you, isn’t it? That I might have the opportunity to triumph over adam after you just gave up your chance. It’s really getting to you, i can tell.

Billy: Honestly, I think your biggest triumph came when you sold newman media to chanccomm. That’s when you were fully independent from your father. You didn’t take his advice. You didn’t need his opinion. You just did it. And it was a beautiful thing. And now you’re buying chanccomm back.

Victoria: Which you resent.

Billy: [ Chuckling ] Well, yeah. But it comes with the help from your father, right? I mean, he took me down, paved the way for you to make your move. And it’s happening again with newman media. You’re gonna owe him, and he is not going to forget. Victoria…don’t let him suck you back in. Walk away while you still can.

Victor: Son, let me just say, there’s no reason for you to be concerned, alright? I’m sure that you would continue working as ceo of the company, albeit a much larger company now that newman media and chanccomm may be united.

Adam: [ Scoffs ] Have you forgotten how hard we worked to keep newman media independent? There was champagne popping. We were rejoicing after we won the bid from victoria, so tell me, what has changed here?

Victor: Think for a moment. Now that newman has merged with ashland locke’s empire and purchased chanccomm, there’s a good reason to combine all of them, you know, under one umbrella instead of having the various groups compete with one another.

Adam: [ Clears throat ] It just — it sure feels like you’re trying to send me a message, and, I mean, is this you expressing your disapproval with me?

No good deed goes unpunished in

this family.

Victor: This has nothing to do with punishment.

Adam: Right, right.

Victor: This is about numbers, son.

Adam: Then why did you bring michael baldwin in at this particular moment? He’s not an accountant. Not at all, he’s a damn good lawyer. So maybe you have something else up your sleeve.

Victor: Maybe I do.

Adam: Why are you being so mysterious? Why not let your ceo in on what you were planning? Okay? I have a right to be included in this discussion.

Victor: Son, I will do whatever I need to do that is the best for this company.

Adam: What exactly does that mean?

Victor: You’ll find out. I brought in ensure max protein,

Tessa: Well, I am just so glad that you could get away from work.

Mariah: Perfect timing because I was having difficulty focusing anyways.

Tessa: Why? Visions of our wedding dancing through your head?

Mariah: I wish. Unfortunately, it was something that I learned from devon earlier. He and abby and chance are re-working dom’s custody agreement.

Tessa: In what way?

Mariah: I don’t know any specifics, but apparently he’s gonna be able to have dom over for regular visits.

Tessa: Wow. Uh…I never thought that abby and chance would agree to that. I mean, maybe devon has more of a legal case than we realized?

Mariah: I mean, according to devon, abby and chance decided that this is what was best for the baby.

Tessa: So how do you feel about that?

Mariah: Um…well, I’m having some mixed emotions. Part of me is relieved because the last thing I would want is for the baby chancellor crew to be torn apart. But I don’t think it comes as a surprise that I am having pangs of jealousy.

Tessa: I mean, that’s totally understandable.

Mariah: But I also have to remind myself that devon and I, they are completely different situations. I am not the baby’s biological mother. As attached as I got to bowie, you know, even if I wanted to file a lawsuit, I just don’t have the same case as devon, and I never even thought of it in the first place.

Tessa: But does it bother you that devon’s gonna have partial custody?

Mariah: I mean, when I think about it, this isn’t far off from what we envisioned for dom in the first place. He’s gonna be surrounded by a ton of people who love him. And in the end, that’s all that matters, right?

Lily: So you’re officially a father now, which makes me officially an aunt.

Devon: Well, I figured you already saw dominic as your nephew.

Lily: Well, I did, but it was our little secret.

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Lily: So what’s next? Do you guys need help with the nursery? Because I would love to help you decorate.

Devon: Oh, yeah?

Amanda: Oh, I will definitely take you up on that offer. We have all of the basics from dominic’s last visit. We never got around to giving it away like we planned.

Devon: Yeah.

Lily: Okay, ’cause I can think of nothing better than to unwind after work by going through wallpaper and fabric swatches.

Devon: Appreciate the enthusiasm. I do. But, nah, the only thing left is to finalize the legal agreement, which, luckily, amanda’s taking care of. And she says that christine has approved all of our requests.

Amanda: Aren’t you forgetting something? Come on. Tell your sister all of the news.

Devon: That’s right, that’s right. So, since dominic is becoming an official member of the family, i asked if that could be reflected in his name.

Lily: Oh, and they agreed?

Devon: They did, so he will officially be known as dominic newman abbott winters chancellor, and I chose winters instead of hamilton to honor neil.

Lily: Wow, what a beautiful thing for you to do. And what an amazing gift to give your son.

Devon: Mm.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Chance: Hey, what you doing?

Abby: I just put dominic down for a nap. I might go do the same. I’m pretty tired. I didn’t get any sleep last night.

Chance: Oh, shoot. I hope that wasn’t because of me. I was tossing and turning all night.

Abby: Yeah, yeah, I felt that, but only because I was awake. We made a big decision yesterday, and we were so busy talking about how it was impacting and you were helping me through the whole thing, that we didn’t really get to hear your side of things. Is that why you were restless, too?

Chance: You know, I had a couple nightmares last night. Got pretty bad.

Abby: I was hoping that those would go away once we worked things out with devon. That it would relieve some of that pressure.

Chance: Yeah, I thought so, too. Thought so, too. But, hey, who knows? It might be one of those things that has to get worse before it gets better, right? It’s just weird. I’ve been pushing all this down for the longest time, and now that I’m not, well, it just feels like the floodgates are open. Might not look like it, but it might be a good thing. Might be a sign of progress. Who knows?

Abby: Well, I wish I could just wave a magic wand and have it all go away, but I know it doesn’t work like that. Maybe these nightmares are a sign that we’re doing the right thing, that we need more help. You know, maybe we made the right decision. Even though it’s hard. Looking to get back in your type 2 diabetes zone?

Ashland: Hey, who dared put that frown on your face? You just point him out to me, and I will take care of him, whatever it is.

Victoria: Mm. It was nothing. Really, it was nothing. I just had a little run-in with billy. He’s guessed that we’re still interested in acquiring newman media, and he wanted to make it clear that he’s not in favor of that.

Ashland: Interesting and a little presumptuous. Maybe he and lily want to make their own play for it.

Victoria: No. No, that’s very doubtful. Billy knows that my father would never sell to him. Besides that, dad wants to give adam a dose of humility. He doesn’t want him to drown in it.

Ashland: Yeah, but why would he care if you acquire it? What’s it to him?

Victoria: He claims that he’s worried about me and that i shouldn’t trust my father.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ] Like we need billy to tell us that. You more than anyone know how your father’s mind works, right? We already suspect that he has an ulterior motive for this sudden reversal that he’s made, and I’m beginning to wonder if his real intention is to use our bid to wave in adam’s face, you know, to use it to keep him in line.

Victoria: Well, I guess that’s possible, but if that’s all my father wanted, then why wouldn’t he have told adam right away? There’s got to be something else going on. We’re not gonna find out what that is until my dad is good and ready for us to know.

Adam: [ Sighs ]

[ Knock on door ] Come in. Noah. What’s up?

Noah: I thought I owed it to you to come down in person and explain why I took the job at new hope.

Adam: Uh, this is the first I’m hearing of it.

Noah: Really? Um…sorry, I didn’t mean to spring it on you like this. I talked to grandpa about it earlier. I assumed he passed on the news.

Adam: Oh, well, dad and I are having some communication issues lately. So new hope, huh?

Noah: Yeah, I’m pretty excited about it. It’ll be fulfilling giving back to those in need, and another added appeal is I get to work with my dad again. I’m sure you can relate, considering you work with yours.

Adam: Mm-hmm. Well, in my case, it’s not quite panning out like I had expected. But nick’s a good guy. He’s doing meaningful work. I’m sure it’ll be a great opportunity for you.

Noah: Thanks, man. Anyways, I just wanted to let you know.

Adam: Thank you.

Noah: Hey, sally.

Sally: Noah.

[ Sighs ] There’s something that I thought you should know.

Adam: [ Scoffs ] Now what?

Devon: Have I thanked you lately for all the support you’ve given me through this? ‘Cause it’s really helped me.

Amanda: Mm. Well, it’s the least that I can do, especially since you were there for me through that whole situation with sutton. And lord knows that dominic is a lot more fun and a lot easier to deal with than my grandfather.

Devon: That’s very true.

Amanda: Yeah.

Devon: That’s very true, but I know that having a baby in the house one day out of every week wasn’t part of the plan when you moved in, and, you know, as cute as dominic is, he can be loud and messy sometimes.

Amanda: He’s a baby.

Devon: I know.

Amanda: Yeah, I get it. Okay?

Devon: But he’s a light sleeper, too, and that’s a big responsibility.

Amanda: Yeah. I am a little worried about that last part. You know, I — I don’t have a lot of experience with infants. But I am willing to learn. I don’t know, I’m looking at this as an adventure with you.

Devon: That’s why you’re amazing. You know that?

Christine: So these are all changes you’ve previously approved, but still, you know, take your time and think it over, look it over. If you’re having any second thoughts or concerns, if you want to make any changes, I can take them to amanda and we can address them.

Abby: Thank you, christine. We really appreciate it. And we’re not having second thoughts. This is the right thing to do. But you’re right, we’re also not gonna rush into this. It’s — it’s too important, and I’m sure devon will be very thoughtful about this, too.

Chance: Alright, well, i guess we’ll be in touch with you soon.

Christine: Okay. Um, listen, before I go, there is one more thing I have to bring up. Devon has made another request. Fries or salad?

This is a cbs news special report. I’m major garrett in washington. There is breaking news from the supreme court. Cbs news learned justice stephen breyer plans to retire at the end of this term in junE. Breyer is 83. He was nominated to the high court by president bill clinton in 1994 and has been a main stay to have the court’s liberal wing. His retirement or plans to that effect gives president biden the chance to nominate another liberal justice. Cbs news chief legal correspondent jan crawford joins me at the tablE. Jan, is this a formal retirement or something close to that?

Reporter: It’s close to it. It’s something we’ve all expected. Justice breyer, 83 years old, the most senior justice on the supreme court, the anchor of the liberal wing, has been under enormous pressure to step down, including last year from progressives and the left, so that president biden would have a chance to nominate his replacement and keep that seat a liberal justice, not take any chances that republicans would get in the white house and be able to replace justice breyer with a conservative.

Jan, you and i have a lot of experience with thiS. Typically, my memory, justices announce this, put out a statement, the white house reacts in accordance and there’s some kind of cohesion. This doesn’t feel the same thing. A tweet by white house press secretary, it has always been the decision of any supreme court justice when and if they decide to retire and when they want to announce it. That remains the case today. We have no additional details or information from the white house. I have sources on capitol hill who have confirmed this. Those around the high court seem a little bit knowledgeable that this was going to happen but don’t have it firmly because breyer hasn’t announced it officially.

It would be unusual for him to do so. Typically justices announce retirement at the end to have the term or the end to have the final or arguments for that term which would be toward the end of april. But by kind of informally letting people know in washington whether in the white house or capitol hill, this can kind of get the ball rolling so that president biden can be ready to announce his possible replacement, those hearings can get started early in the summer, a justice will be confirmed by the time the next court session starts in october and well in advance of the midterm. So it is a way of depoliticizing the process, it’s — if that’s possible with the supreme court — and a way that justice breyer could get in front of this before the drum beat of pressure starts up again from progressives that he step down. He was very almost insulted last year I was told by multiple people at the court that there was this pressure on him to step down because of everything he’s done for the courT. He’s a very much prominent figure who talks about the court, the integrity of the court, like they’re kind trying to throw him out with the trash. By doing this now, it stops that drum beat that he retire and makes it look in justice breyer’s view much less political.

We’ll see if that lasts. Our senior white house and political correspondent ed o’keefe joins us from the north lawn of the white house. I read jan psakI’s tweeT. Anything else from your vantage point?

Reporter: We have indication a heads-up was given to the white house. They’re not commenting. The president is expecting to appear at the top of the hour with C.E.O.S and auto leaders to talk about his economic agenda. We will press him on whether he was told for certain last week or recent days by the justice that he planned to retire and what his plans are going forward. Reminds people this sets up president biden to make some history if he opts to fulfill a campaign pledge. He told me in june 2020 that he intends to nominate a black woman to the supreme court saying “it’s long overdue for a woman of color to serve on the court.” So who might he potentially pick? There are several nameS. Jan, if i miss someone, you should include them, but three that have been mngd, katanji brown jackson, who service on the court for the trirkt of columbia, confirmed with 53 votes. Leandra krueger, 44, depp si assistant attorney general for the office of legal counsel. Comes from kamala harris. The third name mentioned candace jackson akawomi, a new judge at the second circuit court of appeals confirmed in june with 53 votes. Why is 53 important? Because snarls now require only 50 senators to confirm a justice and with three republican votes, collins, murkowski and graham, suggests bipartisan support if the president we’re to pick one of the two women who currently serve on the federal bench.

Before we jump off, I want to get a chance to see any other names?

That’s a really, I think, pretty short list of contenders. There’s one other judge michele chiles, a favorite of clyburn.

Jim clyburn, D.M. From south carolina.

Right, so I think we want to add her to the mix as welL. I think the president seems poised to nominate the first african-american woman to the supreme court. All these women are highly qualified. Jackson clerked for justice breyer so my guess is that might be justice breyer’s sentimental favorite.

A good amount of politics and possibly history to be made in the not too distant future. Our coverage will continue on local news tonight and the “cbs evening news.” I’m major garrett, cbs news special report, reporting from washington. In me to keep my cool ’cause i didn’t want him to know that i was eager.

Ashland: I suspect that you have an impenetrable poker face, but I’m sure that victor is well aware just how excited victoria would be to acquire newman media.

Nikki: Yeah, well, before you get too excited, darling, I want to make sure you realize that your father is intending to be very involved with the company, so you better decide if you can live with that before you go all in on this.

Victoria: Oh, I’m well aware. Right now, I’m a little more concerned about how risky it is to bring adam on board. Oh, I guess that maybe dad left that little tidbit out. He wants adam to stay on as ceo. Otherwise, there is no deal.

Nikki: [ Exhales ]

Mariah: Oh. Look at that. I run up to our place for a few minutes, and this luscious brownie appears out of nowhere. I wonder where it came from.

Tessa: Oh, my goodness, i wonder how that got there. The coffee house elves must have struck again.

Mariah: Elves? Really? Wow.

Tessa: Okay, I figured that you could use a little boost to get through the rest of the afternoon.

Mariah: Thank you. And I’m sorry, I hope I wasn’t too “poor, pitiful me.” I have a ton that I am grateful for. I have a job that I love. And a cute brownie-adjacent apartment. And the most adorable, supportive girlfriend on the face of this earth.

Tessa: Um, excuse me? FiancéE.

Mariah: That’s right. How could I forget? It’s my new favorite word.

Tessa: [ Laughs ]

Mariah: Fiancée, fiancéE.

Tessa: Mm.

Mariah: I am the luckiest girl in the world to be marrying you.

Well, well, well.

Look at you.

Tessa: Yes, “fiancée” is a beautiful word, but isn’t “wife” even better?

Mariah: I can’t wait. So when do we want to do this thing? I mean, we haven’t even talked about it yet.

Tessa: Hmm. Okay. Um, I don’t know. Spring? Is that too soon?

Mariah: No. No, not at all. I mean, june weddings are very special.

Tessa: Well, I guess it depends on whether we want to have a big wedding or a small, intimate one.

Mariah: We could do a destination wedding. Maybe not as lavish as the palazzo in tuscany, but…

Tessa: Destination, like milwaukee?

Mariah: Mm, uh… well, if we keep it small and simple, then we only have to make 400 decisions than the usual 4,000. But again, a big wedding with all your friends and champagne and two gorgeous wedding gowns.

Tessa: Uh-oh, do I hear shades of bridezilla creeping in?

Mariah: Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, that’s totally me. No, but this is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and i want us to put our own unique spin on it.

Tessa: In every way. So what do you think?

Mariah: I think we should start planning this thing before my mom and faith beat us to it.

Tessa: Oh, um, do you mind if we do it tonight? Because I have a publicity meeting for the album release right now.

Mariah: Oh, yeah, of course. It’s a date.

Billy: Okay, great, thank you very much. Yes, we’ll be in touch. Appreciate it. Hi.

Lily: Hey.

Billy: I’m glad you’re back. Uh, let me fill you in. I looked into that construction project, like you asked, made sure all the permits were approved. There’s still a few loose ends to tie up, but nothing insurmountable. My suggestion would be we don’t waste any more time and we break ground as early as next week.

Lily: Yeah, sure, if that’s what you think, then let’s go for it.

Billy: Okay, great. That was easy. I wish victoria took my advice so willingly.

Lily: I’m guessing you offered advice that she didn’t listen to?

Billy: Yeah, I ran into her earlier, and it was pretty clear that she’s still planning to go after adam and newman media. I suggested she followed in my footsteps and walk away, let them go, and live her best life.

Lily: And she didn’t listen to you. That’s a shocker.

Billy: She wouldn’t admit that she was planning anything, but it’s clear she’s convinced that she can pull it off.

Lily: Well, I mean, honestly, look on the bright side. If she is going after adam and she’s successful, then we can watch him go down in flames without even lifting a finger. Just watch on the sidelines, eating popcorn.

Billy: That’s a good point. All the satisfaction, none of the risk. It’s a pretty good deal, isn’t it?

Adam: Well, what’s going on between me and my dad is not up for discussion.

Sally: That’s fine. But I can guess. I bet that victor has already started in with the micro-managing. Yeah, you shouldn’t worry about that, though, because you know what you’re doing. If your father wants to waste his time looking over your shoulder, then let him, ’cause all he’ll see is that you’re doing a great job.

Victor: Well, it’s not just gonna be victor looking over my shoulder.

Sally: What do you mean?

Adam: Nothing. Nothing, just let it go.

Sally: No, are you saying that victor’s gonna bring in someone new over you that, we have yet another layer of bosses to report to? So what’s gonna happen to newman fashion?

Adam: Slow your roll, okay?

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Adam: Look, you have to keep this strictly confidential, okay? You can’t tell chloe, and for god’s sake, you can’t lord it over chelsea that you’re in on a secret.

Sally: I promise. Not a word.

Adam: My father says that he is considering selling the company to victoria.

Sally: Why in the world would he do that?

Adam: Oh, well, the official rationale is that it’s a good business move, but it’s — it feels like a vote of no confidence in my leadership.

Sally: This isn’t because of the billy thing, I hope.

Adam: He says it’s not, but he made a point of underlining how disappointed he was that i apparently was blind-sided by billy’s plan.

Sally: That’s crazy. I can’t believe he’s treating you this way. You were at his beck and call the entire time we were in italy. You were nothing but loyal to him. Does that not count for anything?

Adam: Apparently not. As far as my father’s concerned, it’s besides the point. You see, this is how he operates. He likes people guessing where they stand. Keeps them off balance. Very effective, but irritating as hell.

Sally: So how are you gonna handle this?

Adam: I’m not sure yet.

Nikki: Bringing adam onto our executive team is the last thing I expected.

Victoria: Well, we really don’t have a choice if we want to make this deal.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] I suppose I could make peace with it. That would depend on adam changing his attitude. Although we saw in italy that he is at least capable of being a team player.

Ashland: Well, he was rather instrumental in keeping gaines from disrupting our wedding. I got to hand it to him.

Victoria: Mom has a point. Adam’s attitude is key. You know he helped us in italy for one reason and one reason alone. He wanted to stay on dad’s good side. And obviously that didn’t turn out too well for him, did it?

Ashland: Well, he’s become used to being ruler of his own fiefdom.

Victoria: And now dad is planning to sell it out from underneath him. I wonder how he’s gonna react to that. Such tree-mendous views.

Ashland: Well, I think you’re right to be wary of adam. But there’s also an argument to be made that it’s probably also a good idea to have him in house where we can keep an eye on him.

Nikki: We don’t even know if he would be willing to make the move. I mean, it would be a tremendous blow to his ego. Going from an independent ceo to a subordinate position here with us, with many layers to answer to.

Ashland: Mm-hmm.

Victoria: Listen, we don’t have to make any decisions now. Let’s just see how this all plays out. But I can tell you one thing for sure. I am definitely not gonna let my guard down around adam.

Adam: Even if my father does sell the company, he has guaranteed me that he’s gonna keep me in my position as ceo.

Sally: So you’d be willing to report to your sister?

Adam: Yeah, I’m not sure yet. I still need more time to think it through. But the thing is, my father is partly punishing me, but it’s also another one of his little tests. He’s trying to figure out how I’ll respond to his little game.

Sally: Well, if that’s the case, then you should go for it. Sure it’ll be annoying having victoria scrutinize every little thing you do and taking shots at you every chance she gets.

Adam: You’re not selling this.

Sally: Well, let me finish making my point. You keep saying how unpredictable victor can be and how no one can count on having his support for too long. Well, that means victoria can’t count on it either. So eventually, she’s gonna fall out of his favor and you’re gonna be right there, first in line, in the perfect position to pick up the gauntlet.

Adam: Yeah, I have a lot to think about. But I appreciate your support. It’s nice to have someone in my corner for a change. So thank you.

Sally: Always.

Lily: So I have some news.

Billy: Do tell.

Lily: Abby and chance gave devon shared custody of dominic.

Billy: Wow.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: That’s amazing. I’ve got to be honest, I thought the chances of that would’ve been slim to none.

Lily: I know. I thought it was gonna destroy their friendship or they would give him less access, so thank god that didn’t happen.

Billy: Well, that couldn’t have gone any better.

Lily: Devon’s gonna be an amazing dad.

Billy: There’s no doubt about that. Dominic’s a lucky little boy. But that couldn’t have been an easy decision for abby and chance.

Lily: No. No argument there.

Chance: Hey.

Devon: Hey.

Chance: Come in.

Amanda: Thank you.

Devon: Yeah. Really appreciate you and abby agreeing to this, chance.

Chance: Yeah, of course. We’re — we’re just trying to keep dominic’s needs at the forefront of every decision. Right?

Devon: Same here.

Chance: Good.

Abby: Well, I have all of dominic’s things. They’re all packed. There’s baby food in there, bottles, diapers, a change of clothes. His favorite toy. He really likes to sleep with that. And, oh, I printed out his schedule.

Devon: That’s perfect. And I’ll call you guys if I have any problems or concerns.

Amanda: Yeah, and we can also video call, unless you guys are going out.

Abby: No, no, we’ll be here. We would love that.

Chance: Yeah.

Devon: Perfect. Buddy.

Abby: Mommy loves you, okay?

Devon: How you doing? How you doing? Oh.

Abby: Got it?

Devon: Hey, buddy. I missed you, man. I missed you. Did you miss me? Are you gonna hang out at daddy’s tonight?

Abby: Okay, um, well, you’re gonna go spend the night with him, but you’re gonna be back first thing in the morning, okay? I love you.

Chance: Love you, bud.

Devon: Love you, too. It’s okay. Thank you guys again.

Chance: Yeah. I’ll get the door for you guys.

Amanda: Thank you.

Abby: Love you.

Devon: We love you, too, mommy.

Abby: Be a good boy, okay?

Devon: We’ll be fine. We’ll talk to you guys tonight. We’ll see ya.

Chance: See you, bud. Bye.
