Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Belle thanked Shawn for testifying in court instead of going to Rafe and Jada’s wedding. They talked about what happened at the bachelor and bachelorette parties. Shawn told her that Chanel flirted with him, but he didn’t sleep with her unlike her and EJ. Belle realized that she made a mistake with EJ. Shawn stopped her from explaining by telling her it wasn’t his business. She assured him that it only happened once. Shawn thought she was lying. He noticed a file and wondered what it meant. Leo jumped up to interrupt the wedding, but Javi tried to stop him. He wanted to tell the secret. Arnold got a text and announced that he couldn’t go through with the wedding. Jada pulled him aside and wanted to know what was going on. He told her that she wasn’t the woman he thought she was. Paulina wanted to know why Rafe stopped the wedding. He said that he lied about what he was doing with EJ. The investigation wasn’t for Sloan. He was investigating Jada. Jada wanted to know why EJ was investigating her. Gabi couldn’t believe what happened. She told Javi that Rafe wouldn’t go behind Jada’s back. Javi looked in Leo’s direction, so she wanted to know what was going on. Arnold told Jada that EJ blamed her for losing his job, and he wanted to find any dirt on her. She understood why EJ wanted to investigate her, but she couldn’t believe he would work with him. Arnold said it was easy money, and he didn’t think he would find anything on her. He let her know that he found incriminating evidence against her. Stephanie heard what he said and denied that Jada did anything wrong. Paulina defended Jada too. Arnold said he didn’t want to believe it either, but he had the evidence on his phone. His informant told him that Jada broke rules. While he was investigating her, he found a trail of lies and deception. Jada demanded to see the file when Shawn showed up with it in his hand. Shawn found it and didn’t know how it got to the station. Arnold told them that his informant probably left it on the desk. Shawn said the cases happened while Jada was commissioner. Rafe said that Jada went rogue. Jada said she would never do anything like that. She demanded to see the files, but Paulina took them. Jada couldn’t believe what was happening, but Paulina had to do the right thing. He said the evidence was true and wanted to stop the wedding while she’s under investigation. Jada wanted Shawn to back her up. Paulina asked Shawn to take Jada to the station.

Gabi confronted Arnold about what happened at the wedding. She didn’t understand why he would go against the woman he loved. He didn’t think she should blame him for doing the right thing. She wanted to discuss what happened later. Javi and Leo approached Arnold about what happened. Arnold told them that finding out his fiancee was corrupt surprised him. Javi reminded him that he cheated on Jada with a stripper. EJ hoped that Arnold didn’t screw up his plans for Jada. Belle arrived at the DiMera mansion to talk about what happened with them. Shawn and Marlena didn’t approve of them being together. She told him that Shawn ripped into her about being with him. Belle wanted to talk about their relationship moving forward. EJ told her that Shawn would have to accept other men being in her life. He thought her concern was really about Sami. She thought that Sami would show up if more people found out about them. Belle assured him that they wouldn’t be together again. They flirted with each other and kissed. Belle stopped the kiss, but EJ wanted to go upstairs. She agreed to go upstairs with him. Jada thought it was ridiculous for Paulina to question her. Paulina remembered how hard it was for her when Rafe was in a coma. Jada couldn’t believe that Rafe would investigate her. Shawn tried to defend him, but she didn’t understand why he would go after her. He took her into the interrogation room to look at the evidence against her. After EJ and Belle made love, he received a text from Arnold stating that Jada was taken into custody.

Poppy is at Il Giardino, thinking back to her telling Finn that he’s not Luna’s father. Li arrives, having been called by Poppy. Li keeps apologizing for accusing her of sleeping with her husband. Poppy looks like she feels guilty for not telling her that she slept with Finn. Instead, Poppy tells Li that Luna is missing from the prison and no one will tell her where she went. Poppy is called away by a phone call from Finn.

In his office, Finn is upset that the paternity test he took shows that he’s Luna’s father. He takes another test. Still upset, he calls Poppy. She arrives, and they argue because she insists that he not tell anyone that they slept together years ago. He shows her that he took the test. He feels betrayed because she lied to him.

Luna enjoys hanging out at Bill’s (even though she’s wearing an ankle monitor). She eats chocolates and lounges around. The flyer for Tom Starr’s concert falls out of her magazine, dampening her mood. She is still upset that he might be her father.

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

Paulina begins the wedding ceremony of Jada and “Rafe”. Paulina asks if anyone objects, so Leo stands up and announces he has something to say. Paulina questions what is going on here. Javi asks Leo what the hell he is doing. Leo reminds Javi that he said “Rafe” might shoot the messenger, so he’ll take the hit. Paulina complains about Leo interrupting while Leo insists this is important. Leo says he has something to tell, but Javi says it’s nothing. Leo asks Javi if he’s sure. Javi thanks Leo for trying to protect him but says it’s his secret to tell. Javi then announces that he has something to say.

At the police station, Belle thanks Shawn for he and JJ being able to take the stand in court. Shawn says he was just doing his job. Belle says she appreciates it, especially since it meant he had to miss Rafe and Jada’s wedding. Belle asks if he thinks it’s too late to go. Shawn doesn’t think they’d appreciate him showing up in the middle of the ceremony. Belle points out that at least he got to celebrate at the bachelor party. Shawn mentions that he could’ve done without Chanel throwing herself at him which Belle questions. Shawn explains that he tracked her down at Small Bar and she was desperate for a friendly face. Belle understands she was drunk and upset at Johnny. Shawn assures that he and Chanel did not sleep together, unlike her and EJ.

EJ declares that everything is in place, so the rest is up to Arnold if he doesn’t screw this up.

Arnold tells Javi that whatever wedding surprise he has in store can wait. Arnold then gets a text from EJ. Jada asks “Rafe” if everything is okay. Arnold tells Javi that it’s going to have to wait because he has something to say now. Jada says he’s scaring her and asks what’s going on. “Rafe” responds that he’s sorry but he can’t marry her, leaving Jada and everyone else shocked. Jada pulls “Rafe” aside and asks what he’s talking about. He responds that he can’t marry her because she’s not the woman he thought she was. Paulina questions what this is about. “Rafe” says he’s sorry to interrupt the ceremony and he didn’t want it to be like this. Jada questions what he means. He says he hates to do this right now. Gabi and Javi question what he’s doing. “Rafe” responds that he’s still processing this all himself. Jada questions what is going on and what was in the text he got. “Rafe” brings up EJ hiring him to find Sloan Peterson and reveals he was lying about that.

Belle tells Shawn that what happened with EJ shouldn’t have happened and calls it a mistake. Shawn says they are divorced so how she spends her time and who she spends it with is her business, so he never should’ve brought it up. Belle points out that he did bring it up so it seems like he’s upset about it. Shawn admits he is because he thought she had better taste which Belle questions. Shawn calls EJ scum. Belle asks if they are grading each other’s sexual partners now. Belle insists that she and EJ are not in a relationship and it was a one time thing. Shawn repeats that it’s her business but Belle feels he has more he’d like to say. Shawn says there’s not but Belle tells him to go ahead and say it because there’s no reason to pull any punches. Shawn responds that as someone who’s dealt with addiction, he’s in tune to when someone is lying. Belle questions him thinking that she’s lying to him about EJ. Shawn clarifies that he thinks she’s lying to herself.

EJ waits at home, hoping Arnold doesn’t mess this up and drops the hammer on Jada.

Jada asks “Rafe” what is on his phone. He responds that it’s about the case. He says EJ was his client but the case was not about Sloan Peterson, it was about Jada. She questions why EJ would hire him to investigate her. Gabi argues that Rafe would never go behind Jada’s back. Gabi asks if there’s something Javi and Leo aren’t telling her but Leo says they know nothing about this. “Rafe” explains that EJ came to him to dig up dirt on her because he blamed her for taking his district attorney job and was desperate to prove that she wasn’t as clean as she seems and he wanted anything he could find to leverage in to getting his job back. Jada doesn’t understand why Rafe would want to help EJ.

EJ texts Arnold not to forget to act like it’s killing him since he’s the tormented groom with a broken heart. Belle shows up and tells EJ that she just came from court. EJ guesses she came to gloat. Belle says that Shawn was a witness and she’s just agitated because he gave her an earful about EJ. Belle says it wasn’t supposed to go like this. EJ understands why she felt uncomfortable seeing Shawn. Belle brings up Shawn walking in on EJ trying to sneak out of her mom’s house this morning. EJ asks if Belle came for an apology. Belle says she came to talk about how they are going to handle their relationship going forward.

Shawn sits at his desk and opens a folder, questioning what this is.

Jada questions why “Rafe” would ever agree to dig up dirt on her for EJ of all people. Paulina argues that she deserves an answer. “Rafe” says he figured it would be easy money because EJ was offering a boatload of cash and he was sure there would be nothing, but the problem is that he found something. Stephanie calls that impossible, asking what he could have possibly found on Jada. Paulina argues that Jada has been nothing but an upstanding citizen. “Rafe” says he didn’t want to believe it either but it’s all right here.

EJ asks what Belle means by handle their relationship. Belle says they don’t have a relationship. EJ points out that she used the word. Belle says she didn’t mean it like that and argues that it was never in her plans to have Shawn find out that they spent the night together. EJ argues that Shawn is a grown man and they are divorced, so he’s going to have to deal with her having a life apart from him. Belle says he’s not the only one and brings up Marlena. Belle worries that it’s out there now, so the more likely that Sami will find out and it’s only a matter of time before she comes back to town. EJ says they discussed that worrying about Sami is a total waste of energy. Belle points out that he didn’t think that way last time. EJ insists he’s over that now and is not going to live in fear of her anymore. Belle thinks they should be prepared because you never know what Sami might do. EJ asks if she came all this way to talk strategy about Sami or if there’s something else on her mind.

Jada asks “Rafe” to tell her what he found. He explains that he talked to a detective on the force and had him take a look at her files. “Rafe” reveals that he found some disturbing instances where rules were bent or broken. Jada calls that not possible. Paulina asks what rules they are talking about. Jada promises to not know what he’s talking about. He repeats that it’s all here and calls it a very disturbing trail of lies and corruption.

Belle asks EJ what other reason she would have for coming over. EJ says he doesn’t know. Belle tells him to forget whatever he’s thinking. Belle tells EJ that whatever happened last night is never happening again and calls it a drunken mistake. Belle argues that she’s the district attorney so she has to carry herself a certain way and make good choices, so she’s leaving. EJ tells her to go ahead then, but they end up kissing instead.

“Rafe” says if it were one case, he might be able to write it off as a simple mistake. Jada calls this all one big mistake. “Rafe” says he wishes he was, but the detective compiled every questionable thing Jada has done and all the evidence against her. Jada demands to see it, saying she will respond to every one and asks where it’s at. Shawn then arrives and announces he has it right here. Gabi questions what Shawn is doing there. Shawn says he was in court, then went back to the station and found this on the desk. Paulina questions what it is. “Rafe” guesses the detective must have left it for Shawn. Shawn explains that it’s several case files from when Rafe was in the hospital and Jada was acting commissioner. Paulina asks what it says. Shawn says he didn’t go over all the details but he did notice issues with some certain events and timelines including evidence and warrants. Shawn reveals that the files seem to show that Jada was rogue during all these investigations. Jada argues that she always followed the law. Shawn says these documents show a history of skirting the rules. Jada shouts that she would never do that. “Rafe” points out that she was under a lot of pressure and didn’t know if he was going to live while she had to prove to everyone that she was capable. Jada says she is capable and swears she would never do anything underhanded. “Rafe” says that’s unfortunately not how it looks. Jada asks to see the files but Paulina thinks she should take them.

Belle tells EJ that they shouldn’t be doing this, repeating that it was a mistake and she just got divorced. EJ points out that her being divorced means she’s free to do whatever she wants, but if she truly doesn’t want this, she should leave before it goes any further but if she does, they should take it upstairs. Belle decides they should go upstairs before she changes her mind, so they do.

Jada questions Paulina believing any of this is true. Paulina talks about how much she always respected and believed in Jada. Jada can’t believe “Rafe” is doing this to her. He says he’s sorry and tells her how much it hurts him. Jada questions him doing it. He claims he took the job from EJ while being so sure he wouldn’t find any dirt but the evidence seems pretty clear cut so he thinks it’s best that they don’t get married while she’s under investigation. Paulina hates to say it but believes he is right as she can’t be affiliated with any kind of wrongdoing or perform this ceremony until they get to the bottom of this situation. Jada cries that this is crazy and not true. “Rafe” wishes that were the case and he never found any of this. Paulina tells Jada they can just hope it’s a terrible misunderstanding. Jada calls it a big ugly lie and asks how Shawn can’t see through this, pointing out that he didn’t even see who left it on his desk. Paulina instructs Shawn to take Jada to the police station for questioning. Stephanie asks if this can’t wait since she’s still in her wedding dress. Paulina insists that the sooner they go through the process, the better it will be. Shawn tells Jada that he’s sorry as he then escorts her away.

EJ and Belle go to his bedroom and continue kissing as they begin to undress each other and kiss on to the bed where they have sex again.

Stephanie, Steve, and Kayla go to the Brady Pub. Stephanie can’t believe Rafe, Shawn, and Paulina let that happen. Stephanie wants to go to the police station but Steve says there’s nothing she can do. Kayla trusts Paulina and Shawn. Stephanie complains that Jada did not do what they are saying. Kayla agrees that she can’t imagine Jada breaking the law to prove herself as commissioner. Steve says that’s why they need to strategize to help her, but first they need to know what “Rafe” found and what evidence they have against her. Stephanie says it has to be a misunderstanding as there’s no other way to explain it. Kayla promises to do whatever they can to help Jada. Stephanie says the worst part is that Jada’s fiancée did this to her.

Gabi confronts “Rafe” and asks why he did this. He claims he had no choice but Gabi argues that he did and that he didn’t have to get involved with EJ in the first place. Gabi demands they go home and talk about this right now but “Rafe” says after the day he’s had, he’s not going home to answer a bunch of questions. Gabi questions him not being in the mood. He says he knows it looks like he’s the bad guy but he’s just trying to do the right thing, so he just needs to think. Gabi tells him they will talk about this later and exits. “Rafe” goes over to Javi and Leo and says he can’t believe this happened as his wedding is ruined. Javi asks if he’s okay. He says he’s not as he just found out his bride is completely corrupt and doing all this shady stuff behind his back. Javi argues that he’s in no position to judge, pointing out that he’s made mistakes of his own, bringing up what he did with the stripper.

Shawn and Paulina bring Jada to the police station. Jada calls this insane, arguing that Paulina can’t possibly believe this is true. Paulina responds that she really doesn’t know. Jada argues that she knows her and that she’s not the type of person to play fast and loose with the law to look good as commissioner. Jada adds that Paulina was with her the whole time that Rafe was in a coma. Paulina suggests those struggles could have led her to cut corners but Jada insists that she didn’t and she was determined to carry on Rafe’s legacy while being afraid he wouldn’t wake up. Jada asks how Rafe could dig up dirt on her while telling her he loves her. Shawn points out that he did say he didn’t think he would find anything. Jada continues to question why Rafe would look for dirt on her in the first place.

“Rafe” tells Javi that he almost forgot Javi was about to tell everyone. Leo intervenes and says he stood up first. “Rafe” brings up the guy code and says what happens at the bachelor party, stays at the bachelor party. “Rafe” tells them that his wedding is in shambles after finding out his bride cheated her way in to his job and now he has to go figure out what he’s going to do with the rest of his life as he walks away, leaving Javi and Leo confused. Javi can’t believe that just went down. Leo thought he had a lock on the craziest wedding interruption in town but that blew it out of the water. Javi asks what to do now, if they still tell Jada that “Rafe” cheated on her since they decided it was the right thing to do. Leo points out that Javi wanted her to know the truth before she committed herself to Rafe and now there’s no wedding. Leo adds that since “Rafe” betrayed Jada twice in 24 hours, he thinks she dodged a bullet. Javi agrees that telling Jada now would just be kicking her while she’s down.

Paulina instructs Shawn to take Jada in to the interrogation room where they can go over all of this, piece by piece. Shawn tells Jada that he’s sorry to do this and asks if she wants to wait for her lawyer. Jada says to just get it over with since her fiancee just tore her apart at their wedding, so the day can’t get any worse as they then head to the interrogation room.

Stephanie tells Steve and Kayla that she doesn’t get it as she thought Rafe was a good guy but then he goes after the woman he loves in this way. Steve notes that he’s been making some questionable decisions lately. Kayla talks about it being hard to believe while Stephanie talks about Jada being one of the best people she knows. Steve says to consider the source and says this has EJ’s filthy fingerprints all over it.

After having sex, EJ asks if Belle still thinks this was a mistake. Belle responds that her brain is not really in thinking mode. EJ jokes that thinking is overrated. They go to kiss again but EJ gets a text from Arnold saying it’s done and that they took Jada to the police department which makes EJ smile. Belle asks if it’s good news. EJ says very.

Arnold returns to his hotel room at the Salem Inn and gets a text back from EJ, telling him it’s shaping up to be a great day.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[gasps] Oh!

[groans]

Honey. Well, I–I– I brought some bonbons for my– my favorite Bon– Bon Bon.

Thanks.

You–I guess you can’t eat those, can you? Gosh, I’m so sorry about that. Well, how long do you think you’ll be laid up here? I heard–heard it could be months.

[muffled] Yeah, it’s a long time.

Whatever you said, it sounds kind of bad. Uh, look, you know, Charlemagne is nothing without Kassandra. So not to make it all about me, but what do you think’s going to happen?

They recast me with Kayla.

What?

Kayla. Kayla.

Oh, Kayla. Oh, Kayla.

Mm-hmm.

Oh, I have not seen Stephanie worked up like that in a very long time.

Well, it’s not easy watching your best friend’s wedding blow up.

Well, and it’s hard on you to see Marcus’s daughter go through that.

Yeah. I just kept thinking how horrible it would have been for him to see her hauled down to the police station on those corruption allegations. It just doesn’t make any sense. The Jada I know would never be capable of doing any of those things she’s being accused of.

Agreed. So are you going to talk to Shawn and tell him about your hunch that EJ set Jada up?

No, I’m going to do some legwork first. I don’t want DiMera knowing that I’m on to him until I have something solid I could use against him.

Yeah, that’s a good idea. Ugh. Oh, what’s this?

Well, I hope Dr. “Sweetness” Johnson is up for playing these scenes as the mother-in-law from hell.

And the spoiler for Regan and Arrow.

Yeah. I’m hoping that Joy and Alex aren’t spoilers for themselves.

What do you mean?

You know what I mean. You know how messy it could get now that the two of them are sleeping together in real life?

And I thought I was feeling good before.

Before?

Didn’t you notice how mellow I was on set today?

Yeah. You were pretty chill now that I–

Yeah.

I think about it, yeah.

Well, that’s because it was actually a fun day at work for a change.

Oh.

No Chanel making me feel guilty or snarking at me about her husband.

No wonder.

But still, how I wish I never met Johnny DiMera that night at Small Bar.

Hey, there’s no way you could have known that you two would be working together.

I know, or that his wife and I would be working together, too. But still, there was something. Something told me that night it was a big mistake to hook up with him.

Yeah.

I should have listened to my gut.

Great work today, Seth. Seriously, I mean, nobody could bring Dr. Blake Lamoray to life the way you have. You’re, uh, you’re really growing into the character. Yeah. I agree. It’s not the same without Faith. I miss her too.

[soft orchestration]

announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Seth, I got to go. I’ll, uh–I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Chanel, hey.

Hey. Uh, this was at your front door.

Thanks. Uh, did you come by for any particular reason?

Yeah, I did. I wanted to talk to you about us.

Oh, it’s from Leo. Yikes. I think it’s my first script.

I still can’t believe I’m married to a TV star.

A very reluctant one, believe me. I just couldn’t say no to Abe. I knew he was desperate.

You’re a good friend.

[groans] Let’s see what I’m in for. [pensive music] Ugh.

What are you worried about? You know Alex and Joy are the definition of consenting adults, right?

Yes. We both know that. We both also know if things go wrong, we’re going to have a big problem because this is Alex we’re talking about. And just five minutes ago, he was–he was sleeping with Stephanie Johnson.

Did I just hear my name?

How about we run lines for tomorrow’s bedroom scene, hmm, in bed?

Hmm.

Hmm.

Hmm, as in not as fun as what we were doing before, but more fun than me doing it at home on my own.

Oh, way more fun. I promise. [sultry music]

All right, all right.

Another day, another show. Let’s see. Hmm. Oh, my God. Well, this came out of nowhere.

What happened?

Regan. She gets into a car accident and goes into premature labor.

OK.

But I just got pregnant. This is way too soon.

Hmm.

Wow. And they have Arrow trying to deliver the baby on the side of the road.

I get to deliver a baby? That’s awesome.

Oh, no.

What?

The baby’s not breathing.

What do you mean it’s not– they can’t kill a baby, right?

Um, no. No, the baby doesn’t die.

Oh, good.

I do. [intriguing music]

I got to admit, when I didn’t hear from you today, I was worried you were having second thoughts.

No, no second thoughts. I just–I knew you were working, and I just– I needed a little more time. I wanted to make sure that my head was on straight before we had this conversation.

I understand.

But I meant what I said last night, OK? If we’re going to make our marriage work, then we have to get to work right away.

You’re right.

Letting things fester is how we ended up in this situation in the first place, right? So if you ever doubt me again for any reason, then you talk to me, OK? No wasting time and letting things spiral into this self-fulfilling prophecy.

That is the last thing that I want.

And if you ever happen to see Alex having sex with someone that you cannot see, just please don’t automatically assume it’s me.

Look, I’m not going to make that mistake again, OK? Trust me when I say that. I–I know. I let my jealousy just get out of hand. I know that. I went down this crazy rabbit hole and hurt you.

I just–I don’t understand how you could ever think that I would cheat on you. I really thought that we were in a good place. I thought we were solid. And obviously, you didn’t.

I know. And that’s 100% on me, OK? I own that. And all I can say now is that I promise, OK? I promise that I will never doubt you again. I promise that I will be a better communicator. I love you, Chanel. I can’t live without you.

I love you too, Johnny. And I cannot imagine wanting to be with any man but you.

I can’t imagine wanting to be with anyone else either ever– not ever.

Uh–

Oh, is there a problem?

Yes, a big one. You know, I know it’s just acting, but I don’t know how I’m supposed to pretend to be in love with another man because you’re the only man that I want.

Aww.

Yeah. But luckily, in this show, I talk about Rhett. I don’t actually kiss him or anything.

Well, if he did kiss you, I might have to put a hit out on him.

Yeah, well, this show, I just have scenes with Charlemagne, AKA Hattie Adams.

Oh, lucky you.

Yeah. I suppose I should call her up and run lines with her or something, right? I mean, that’s what they call this. “Run the lines.” Run the lines?

Well, in this case, I think you should call it “run for the hills.”

[laughs] Yeah, that would be a great idea. I would love to do that. You know what? I do not have the energy for her tonight, so why don’t you just run the lines with me, huh?

Me? I’m no actor.

Well, neither am I. Listen. Charlemagne barely has any lines in this whole scene, so here. Let’s do it, please. [whimsical music]

Mmm, yummy. So Dr. Kayla is Kassandra, huh? I’m–I’m just not sure I see that. I mean, she’s nice enough, and she’s got a great hair. But she doesn’t have your spark, Bon Bon, you know?

Hmm.

Yeah. Yeah.

Thank you.

Oh, oh, thank you. Oh, yes. OK. Well, you’re welcome. It’s going to be pretty interesting tomorrow, you know. Oh, oh, Leo– Leo gave me a script, right here. Yeah. So I–I, um, been kind of glancing out a little bit. But it seems to me that there’s a whole lot of Kassandra and Charlemagne in this thing. Oh, my goodness, yeah. Do you want to run it with me?

That’s insane. They can’t kill Regan.

It says I bleed out on the side of the road.

Let me see it. Maybe you come back from the dead later or something, you know? All right, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. “Arrow picks up the newborn baby, “tries to flag down a car for help. We see headlights, hear screeching, and he goes down.”

What? You get hit by a car?

Whoa, whoa, is it– “The baby goes flying out of his arms. “It lands gently in an off-camera thicket of shrubbery.”

And what about Arrow?

It says he’s dead. [tense music]

Stephanie? I thought you were at Jada’s wedding.

Ah. Guess you haven’t talked to Paulina.

No. Why?

Well, the wedding was a total disaster. Actually, it didn’t even happen.

What?

What?

Rafe supposedly found evidence that Jada is a corrupt cop. He left her at the altar, and Shawn dragged her down to the police station for questioning.

Well, I don’t believe it. I can’t believe that Paulina would either.

Well, her hands were tied. I mean, the whole thing is outrageous. Jada is incapable of the things that they are accusing her of. My dad is going to clear her name.

So is that why you came down here so late, to tell us this?

Uh, no. Actually, I wanted to let you know that I put out a release to the soap press about my mom assuming the role of Kassandra. And I also put out a release about the new identity of Lady Whistleblower. Oh, and I took care of the Emmy submissions.

Well, that’s very efficient. But, you know, the Emmys aren’t for months.

Yes. But I won’t be around then.

Well, why not?

Because I quit.

You’re quitting your job?

I am. But I didn’t want to leave you guys in the lurch, so I’ve already taken the liberty of reaching out to my friend who’s also a publicist. Her name is Andrea. She is fantastic. She has tons of experience.

OK, could we just back this up a bit? What prompted this decision?

It has nothing to do with you or the job. I promise. I have loved every minute of working on this show.

Uh, then what is the reason?

Alex Kiriakis. [soft dramatic music]

So I guess we’re fired?

You’d think they would say something before you just read it in a script, right?

Yeah.

Yeah, yeah. It’s–wait a second. Wait a second. I knew it. Look at the air date.

April 1.

It’s an April Fool’s Day episode. So everything that just happened is like a dream or something.

Maybe. Maybe, but I– I don’t see anybody yelling “April Fool’s” at the end of this.

I’m going to call Abe to get it cleared up.

Oh, no, don’t. Don’t.

Yes.

No, we’ll figure it out tomorrow, OK? And honestly, I am OK with whatever happens.

Oh, you’re OK with whatever happens?

Like, I know I said today was a really good day on set, and it was. But to be honest, there’s been a lot more rough days than good ones. And who knows what else is to come? And, um, actually, the only real positive thing that’s come from this whole experience has been meeting you.

Joy. Come on. That is really sweet, but–

No, I mean it, Alex. And I was thinking, since next week is Valentine’s Day, I’d really love to spend it somewhere else with you. [soft music]

Hmm.

So with the help of time and talking things through– well, mostly with myself– I have a new perspective on us and what happened.

OK.

And the way I see it now– look. You almost went to bed with Joy. And I had a close call with Shawn. And we were both just angry and lashing out. But at the end of the day, neither one of us actually broke our wedding vows. And I think there’s a reason for that.

Look, speaking for myself, that night, when I took off my wedding ring with Joy, I honestly– I felt naked without it. And I never, ever want to take it off again. Chanel, there is one thing that I need from you if we’re going to fix our marriage. I need you to be here. Every night that you spend at your mom’s, you just feel further and further away. So would you please just come home?

OK. I will.

Really?

Really.

OK, uh, OK. Well, let– do you want to go– do you want to go to your mom’s? I’ll help you pack your things.

Oh, no, that won’t be necessary.

Oh, so you do need a little more time?

No, no. I already packed my bags in the car.

OK, baby, I can never say no to you when you bat those pretty blue eyes at me. But just don’t ask me to do Hattie’s lines in falsetto. OK?

OK. OK, OK, OK. Just give me the cues, OK? All right. All right, I’m going to start. I’m going to start.

Mm-hmm.

OK. “Oh, my God, Charlemagne, I can’t believe it. You’re alive!”

“You’re not getting rid of me that easily, Kassandra. The Phoenix always rises from the ashes.” – “You’re no Phoenix. “And I’m not about to give up Rhett now. “So I suppose I’ll just have to make you die for real this time.”

Oh, my God. It says Kassandra shoots me and I die. That Leo. I finally get back on the show, and he’s killing me off again. [tense music]

“You’re never going to get–get away with this. I thought we were friends.” [sighs] You’ll–you’ll never get rid of me. I will haunt you forever.

That is not even close to your line.

I was going where the scene takes me, baby. [groans]

[laughs]

How was that?

And they say vaudeville is dead. I don’t think so.

I’m going to talk to Abe. I think I’m a natural.

No, I think you need to put your acting aspirations aside. You were going to clear Jada, remember?

Right. So explain this to me. Charlemagne is really dead?

Well, I mean, I don’t know. It says she comes back– I mean, how would they kill her off? She just came back to life. There must be something more to this. [gasps] Oh.

Oh, what? What is it?

There is something more. Kassandra dies too.

How in tarnation could he kill me off again? Ink isn’t even dry on my contract yet. You didn’t have anything to do with this, did you, Bon Bon?

What? No, of course not.

Oh, good. I’m so glad. You know what? I’m just going to call him, give him a piece of my mind. [line trilling] [beep] Oh, went right to voicemail. Well, I’m not going to let him do this to me. I’m going to– I’m going to go over there and give him what for. I’ll be back, honey.

Mm-hmm. [intriguing music]

So you’re quitting for Alex Kiriakis?

Well, because of him, but not for him. I’m doing it for myself. Look, you guys were being fair when Alex and I were together before, and you said that I had to choose between him or the job. Fast forward to now, I’ve realized that keeping my job was a reflexive choice, one that I’ve come to regret.

Now that you’ve broken up with my son.

I had no business being with Philip when I wasn’t ready to move on. And honestly, I don’t think Alex was ready to move on so quickly either.

Have you talked to him about this?

Um, I have, yes. But we didn’t get to finish our conversation. And that’s OK. Because whether or not we’re on the same page, I know that I’ve made the right decision.

Well, I wish that I could agree with you about that choice.

I also know that Alex is with Joy now. So obviously, if we don’t wind up together, at least I know I tried.

You want to take a little Valentine’s Day trip, huh?

Well, my mom’s been bugging me to come visit. And, like, I don’t know. New York would be fun, right? We could go to a couple of Broadway shows. We could go to the Met. We could go to MoMA.

[sighs]

Well, don’t get too excited.

No, no, I– I, yeah, I’m just– you know, meeting the parents– it’s a big step.

Wow. So you were only with Joy because you thought I was with Philip. And I was only with Philip because I thought you were with Joy.

Bingo. But you’re not with Philip anymore.

No. But you’re still with Joy, right?

Kinda.

Define “kinda.”

I mean, it’s not like we’re official or anything, you know? We’re just spending a little bit more time together. But I mean, If I had known you were single, Steph, I swear to God to you, I would slow that down completely so that you and I could–

So that you and I could what?

Forget it, really, because I don’t even know if you and I can really be together as long as the two of us are working on “Body & Soul.”

What if I wasn’t?

I just–I don’t know. I just maybe feel like it’s maybe too fast.

Yeah, no, I mean, it was just an idea.

Yeah.

Um, we definitely don’t have to go to New York. We could, um, we could go somewhere else. We could just stay here. I mean, you do– you want to celebrate Valentine’s Day with me, right?

Yeah. [phone buzzes] Yeah, yeah, yeah, of course. Of course. Come on. Oh, man. Anyway, I should probably get going, call it a night.

What about tomorrow’s script?

Oh, it’s, like, all action, pretty much. There’s no lines, so, you know. Got an early call time. I’m so tired.

You know you can always just stay here, too.

Thank you. But I think you and I both know if that happens, we’re not going to get much sleep. So I will see you tomorrow. OK?

Great. Yeah, yeah, tomorrow.

OK.

OK. I’m–I’m going to go get your stuff out of the car, help you unpack. And I–I–you know, I can’t believe that we’re sleeping under the same roof tonight. And also, um–

Also?

Also, um, look, I– I just–I want you to know that, um, we don’t have to sleep in our bed tonight. You know, whatever you’re comfortable with is what I want.

Hmm. Well, let’s just take it one day at a time.

OK. I have missed you so much. [soft music]

Did I even say “welcome back?” Welcome back.

[laughs] Yeah, I think I got the message.

[sighs] You know, this is the last thing that I want to do right now, but do you mind if I open this up? It’s going to be a new script from Leo, probably with some new pages for tomorrow.

Go for it. Let’s see what the troublemaker’s cooked up now.

Yeah. Oh, OK. Oh, my God.

What?

Leo killed off Dr. Lamoray.

What?

Yeah. I mean, Seth loves being on this show. I was just literally, when you walked in, telling him what a good job that he’s doing. He’s going to be devastated.

Hey.

Hey. That was fast.

Well, I got your message. It sounded important. What’s going on?

Sorry for the cryptic text. I just wanted to talk to you about this in person.

It’s OK.

I quit “Body & Soul.”

You did? I mean, I know you said you would, but–

I–I had to go for it, even if we didn’t finish our conversation from the other day.

I’m just, um– wow.

Look, you know I have feelings for you. And I’m not trying to pressure you in any way. I just knew that if we were ever going to have a shot, it wasn’t going to happen if I was still publicist at “Body & Soul.” I had to follow my heart.

Steph, I don’t even know what to say.

You don’t have to say anything right now. I know that you’re with Joy, and that’s a complication, obviously.

Yeah, yeah, more than I wish it were.

What do you mean?

Well, I just thought we were still on this “getting to know each other” phase, you know, casual.

And you’re not anymore?

She’s not anymore. Suddenly she’s talking about taking this Valentine’s Day trip.

Oh. Well, Alex, I mean, if you want to do that, you should–

I don’t want to do that at all. And that’s how I know what I have to do. I have to let her down gently… Because I just want to be with you, Steph.

I can’t believe it that Stephanie just up and quit on us without any notice.

Well, I am sorry to see her go.

Damn it, Abe. Ever since Hattie put that stupid curse on us, I mean, it seems like everything has gone wrong– everything from the poisoned cupcakes, actors quitting left and right, the PR person quitting. Plus, Justin still insists that Bonnie was led to that elevator shaft on purpose.

Yeah. You know, it’s been a long day. Look, why don’t you– why don’t you go home and get some rest, huh?

You do the same thing.

Yeah. I’m going to finish up this schedule, and I’ll be right behind you.

OK.

You know, maybe this whole thing is my fault.

How so?

Because I told Abe that I didn’t really want to do the part. And I didn’t have much time to give him, so maybe he decided that it was too much trouble to recast it. And he decided just to pull the plug on the whole thing.

I guess it’s possible.

Yeah, but to kill the character off? I mean, Bonnie is going to get better someday, and now she’s not going to have a job? I just wish he would have talked to me about it first.

Well, why don’t you call him and find out?

Yeah. Yeah, that’s what I’m going to do. Speed dial somewhere? There he is. [line trilling]

Oh. Kayla, hi.

Ah, Abe, hi. How are you? I’m sorry to call you so late. But I was just going over the script for tomorrow, and I’m just a bit confused.

Well, I’ll help if I can.

Um, yeah, I didn’t know, but, um–but it says in there that Kassandra is being killed off.

What?

Well, the script says that I shoot Charlemagne, and then when I drop the gun, her cat slinks over and steps on the trigger and then shoots me in the heart. I mean, I don’t know. Is this just, uh, Charlemagne’s revenge or something?

Kayla, I– I have no idea what you’re talking about.

But it was in the script that was waiting for me when I came home.

Oh. So this must be Leo going off again on his own without running it by us.

So what should I do?

Well, you hang in there, and I’ll get to the bottom of it.

Hey, hey. I need a word with you.

Ugh, looks like I don’t have much of a choice. What’s up?

“What’s up?” Don’t play dumb with me, mister. I just got my latest script, and it says that Kassandra kills me dead.

What? No, she doesn’t.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, she does. Look, it’s all right here in black and white.

I did not write that. Ugh. Look at this terrible spelling, this awful punctuation. Where did this come from?

Well, it got delivered to me in an envelope with my name on it, like always.

Well, it didn’t come from me.

Well, if you didn’t write it, then who did? [tense music]

So what is this? Some kind of a joke?

Oh, my God. What if it’s the stalker?

What stalker?

The evil SOB who sent those poison cupcakes and the text to Bonnie sending her to the elevator, the person who has been targeting the cast and crew of the show since you put a curse on it.

Oh, yeah. Well, I guess that’s possible. But attempted murder, I mean, that’s no small potatoes. And I know they were killing me off on the show, but at least I wasn’t going to die in real life, you know? Although, I’m feeling a little unsteady.

You are suddenly looking a little green around the gills.

Yeah. [soft dramatic music]

I should get something to drink.

[shallow breathing]

So you want to be with me? Do you really mean that?

Of course I do.

[gasps] Alex! What’s wrong? Alex. Alex! Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God.

So what did Abe say?

He said no one’s getting killed. And he thinks that Leo just went rogue.

Well, it sounds like Leo.

Yeah. And, um, Abe said he was going to get to the bottom of it…

Sweetness, you OK?

I just feel kind of– I don’t know. I feel–

Oh. Baby, hey. Oh.

I–I don’t understand why they would do this. They have to know that killing off Seth is a huge mistake. He’s the one who gave us permission to shoot at the hospital. If he revokes that, we’re screwed.

You’re right.

[sighs] I’m going to call Leo right now.

[grunts] [groans]

Johnny!

Oh, my God. I think I know who’s doing this.

[ominous music]

Transcript provided by Suzanne and Thane

[edgy music plays] Luna’s not my cousin. She’s my daughter. Luna’s my daughter. If only you knew where I was, Mom. You need to give it to me straight, Poppy, the truth. Am I Luna’s father? You are not Luna’s father. I was surprised to get your text. Thank you for coming. I know how busy you are. Oh, I’ll always make time for my sister. That’s my promise to you from now on. Though, honestly, didn’t expect to hear from you. Not after what I put you through the other day, accusing you of being part of such a terrible, dark family secret. Jack and I never had an affair, Li. Luna isn’t his child. I understand that now… how horribly wrong I was. All those years I wasted in bitterness and anger. I just hope you can forgive me one day for thinking what I did of you. What is it, Penelope? Why did you want to see me? [edgy music plays] What’s really going on with me? I think you’re up to something. Seriously, Hope, this-this power has made you paranoid. I have had years of experience with you, and I know exactly what you are capable of. Too many times, I have been burned by you. Never again, Steffy. [whimsical music plays] It’s, uh, it’s crazy. Ha. I mean, it’s just hard to concentrate. Mm. That scent you’re wearing… Almost like… you could lose yourself? [both chuckle] So, um…about the Forrester fragrance, about launching it, I’m thinking that we can– Let’s discuss the details later. Right. Yeah, yeah. Right. We can set an appointment. Ha ha. I’m sure you’re involved with a number of projects. Mm. Nothing quite like this one. Well, um, we’re very excited and thrilled to be collaborating with the nose of Paris– hell, the world–but, you know, I-I have a question for you. What brought you to Forrester’s door?

Steffy:  It’s no secret that you and I have a contentious history, Hope. HOPE: That’s putting it mildly. But thankfully, there have been changes here at Forrester Creations, and I’m no longer your scapegoat. Yeah, thanks to Carter. Your partner in crime. What’s going on, Penelope? You’re not yourself. Tell me. Maybe I can help. You need to give it to me straight, Poppy, the truth. Am I Luna’s father? Something’s happened. What? Luna… …is missing. No. No, no, no. This can’t be right. This can’t be ri– this can’t be right. I’ve got– I gotta take another test. I’ll take another test. [heavy music plays] Forrester Creations couldn’t be in better hands. Yep. With Carter and the Logans at the helm. I know what you think of my family. Oh, please. You couldn’t care less what I think. You’re a…talented, dynamic businesswoman. Who only got to where I am– or should I say was– because of my last name, right? That’s what you think. As I said, Forrester Creations is being run differently now. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect, including you, so I will say this. You have made many positive contributions to the company over the years. Only to be sidelined by one of the most underhanded business coups imaginable. [door opens] I’m interrupting. No. Zende, your timing couldn’t be more perfect. I was actually showing Steffy your latest designs for Hope for the Future and I think you really nailed it.

Thank you.

Yeah. Yeah, I agree. I think Hope for the Future is going to continue to thrive, what with your talent and Carter’s leadership. One thing you should know, tres cher. Daphne Rose never explains herself. Meaning I may never know why you suddenly appeared that day. Okay, well, obviously, you had your reasons. Reason. Singular. But I shall never tell. Perhaps you can tell me this. Which Forrester fragrance should we launch with, one or two? [whimsical music plays] [chuckles] Choose. [huffs] Luna’s missing? Yes. And I don’t know where she is. Tom Starr. I’ll never believe you’re my father. [edgy music plays] [timer beeps] [beeping] [heavy instrumentals] Well, I have to get going, but Zende, I just– I wanted to thank you again for all of your hard work and your commitment to Forrester. You are really going above and beyond. So it’s-it’s really appreciated. Thank you. Absolutely. You’re invaluable to all of us. Leave you to it. Oh, you came in at the right time.

Whew.

I’m not sure how much longer

I could have restrained myself.

Hope getting to you? She’s so sure this is how Forrester’s gonna be

from here on out.

Little does she know that she and Carter are in for a rude awakening. You mean my plan, Operation Carter Walton? You still have not let me in on any of the specifics, but if I can help in any way, please let me know. I have utmost confidence in you. So does Uncle Ridge and Granddad. Carter won’t be in charge much longer. Not if you have anything to do with it. You want me to choose? It’s your company. It’s your fragrance. You created them. I belong to you now. Our partnership. So, Monsieur Walton, your preference. Un ou deux? I don’t understand–how is Luna missing? She’s in prison.

I know.

Well, someone call you? No. I went to see her and they told me she wasn’t there. Did they transfer her to a different facility? All they told me was that she was still incarcerated. They didn’t tell you where? No. They were being very vague. This is outrageous. [huffs] Your daughter’s missing and no one will tell you where she is? Do you want me to go down there? Maybe I can find out something for you. If they wouldn’t tell me anything, I doubt they’d say anything to you. But thank you. Of course. She’s my niece. [phone rings] Oh. I-I’m sorry. I have to take this. [phone ringing] Hello? I need to see you. I’m at my office.

Can you come right away?

I’m in the middle of something. It’s important. Can you tell me what it’s about?

Are you coming or not, Poppy?

All right, I-I’m leaving now. I’m sorry, Li, but something’s come up

and I have to take care of it.

Something about Luna? Never mind. I won’t pry. But please let me know if you hear anything about Luna.

I will.

And one more thing. I just want to apologize again for the accusations I held on for all those years, thinking you could betray me in my own home. Hopefully, you can forgive me one day. How I could even imagine you could hurt me and my family in such a terrible way… [tense music plays] Honestly, I wish it hadn’t come to this, but drastic times call for drastic measures. And these are drastic times for Forrester Creations. This is truly a fight for the heart and soul of Forrester Creations– its future, its identity. I mean, in a few months from now, Forrester Creations– it might not even be recognizable. Hope and Carter, they wanna take risky moves, and they’re not being strategic. No, but you are, hopefully coming up with a way to stop them. Well, I had to do something. I can’t just sit idly by and wait for Justin and his team to work their angle– like, that could take months, and we don’t even know if that’s gonna be successful.

Meanwhile…

Hope, Brooke, and Carter are becoming more entrenched in their positions. Every day that goes by, they’re consolidating their power. And Hope is getting more arrogant by the minute. Not only does she wanna lead Hope for the Future, but she wants to be in on all of the business decisions. And Carter is more than willing to let her, at least that’s how I read it. Hey, Zende, I know none of this is easy for you, working with Hope and Carter, especially on Hope’s line. But just know that your intel is invaluable. I do…wish that… you would let me in a little bit on the details of your plan. I’ll tell you this. If this plan continues to go in this direction, Hope and Carter will never smell what’s coming until it’s too late.

HOPE: Carter.

[sharp inhale] Daphne. What’s going on? I was, um…I was admiring the-the Forrester fragrances trying to, uh, figure out which one to launch with. It can’t be Tom Starr. Oh, God, this has haunted me my whole life. Who is my father? Lock the door. Wait. I need to say something first. [Finn scoffs] I realize that there are a lot of questions that are swirling around that brilliant mind of yours ever since your mother ran the paternity tests, and we are now certain that Tom Starr is not Luna’s father. And-and it’s made you think about that night that we shared all those years ago. And I’ve been thinking a lot about it too, and you know what, you’re right. There’s nothing for us to be ashamed about. You were of age and we were two consenting adults, and, yeah, you were adopted into the family, but we are actually not related by blood. There’s no biological connection between us. And we cared about each other. And what we shared was-was beautiful and it was special. And that is how I have always remembered it. And, Finn, I would really hope that you would remember it that way too– this magical connection that we had. But that was all that it could be. And we have both moved on with our lives, and-and look–look at what you’ve accomplished. You are a… brilliant and highly respected doctor with a beautiful wife and family, and I… Well, I have a chance to patch things up with my sister and pursue the kind of relationship that two sisters should have. [sniffling] But Finn, that can’t happen if you keep on thinking about that night and asking questions. You know, the kind of questions that can raise a lot of red flags for other people. So you understand what I’m saying, right? No one can find out about this. No one. They can’t. What is that? I think you know what that is. A paternity test? Finn, I already told you there is no way that Luna is your daughter so I am begging you, for both our sakes, to please drop it. Don’t you wanna know what it says? Yeah, we were close. You were my first. But you promised… that you would be honest and truthful. I trusted you, Poppy. I trusted that you would never hurt me and you wouldn’t make me regret that night we shared. And I never did. Until… You lied to me. Luna isn’t my cousin. She’s my daughter. Luna is my daughter. I’m… the father. [heavy music plays]

At the hospital, Trina gets Curtis to talk to Kai, who is struggling since being injured. He’s paralyzed and was told that if he plays football again, he could die. Meanwhile, Kai’s friend and teammate Quinn tries to get Kai to talk about football. Kai tells Quinn that he needs to step up and be team leader now. Curtis introduces himself to Kai, letting him know that he was in a wheelchair for a while after being shot. He suggests that Kai has to let himself feel his grief, anger etc. in order to get to rehab. Kai worries about his future. Curtis praises his work in football, which tells him that Kai is brave. Kai doesn’t want to be a charity case but tells Curtis that he hasn’t let his family know his prognosis yet. He feels that he failed his team, but Curtis disagrees. Curtis asks him not to give up on himself. He gives Kai his business card and tells him to call any time, and then he leaves. Kai texts Trina, asking her to come by.

Outside, Quinn blames Trina for Kai’s injuries – for getting him involved in art so that his focus was split. They argue about Kai before Quinn storms off in a huff.

They wonder what he has against Sonny. Laura leaves, and Isaiah shows up. Jordan tells him that Sidwell is in town. He doesn’t think Sidwell would come after him again. She jokes that she would like to use the towel her gave her for Christmas, next time she works out and uses the steam room. She begins to tell him about her stressful day, but he’s called away on the phone. Meanwhile, Sidwell arrives at the bar, so she greets him warmly, asks why he’s in town, and what his business is. He replies genially that he’s an importer of rare gems and other things of value. They flirt. Isaiah sees them together and isn’t too happy about it.

Elizabeth is on the phone with someone at “Turning Woods” to ask about an older lady named Mrs. Chad that died suddenly of a heart attack, even though she was in good health. They know that Cyrus visited her before that. Laura drops by to bring news about Sidwell being in town, and how he bought Wyndemere. Liz can’t believe he’s just walking around free, but there were no laws in the place where he kept Lucky prisoner. Laura tells him that Anna is keeping an eye on Sidwell. Lucky assures her that he’ll be fine and will stay away from Sidwell. Elizabeth watches his face; she can tell that he’s not fine. She tries to get Lucky to open up about Sidwell keeping him prisoner. He admits that it was hell. He convinced Jason not to kill Sidwell, but he hopes that he doesn’t regret it (if Sidwell hurts others).

Sonny and Alexis are in her office. He asks how she is. She’s upset that Sam was murdered. Sonny offers an ear, so she rages about her feelings. They hug, and she literally cries on her should. He assures her that she never failed Sam, and she thanks him. Laura comes by to ask Kristina if she knows anything about Sidwell buying Wyndemere. Alexis tells her that Ava sold Wyndemere to another company. Laura tells them that Sidwell bought Wyndemere. Sonny and Laura tell Alexis that Sidwell kidnapped Lucky and was probably behind the targeting of Jason and Anna. Sonny has to leave, so Laura offers her sympathy about Sam. Alexis thanks her and tells her that she plans to focus on Sam’s gift of love to Lulu

Dante and Brook Lynn are talking in the stables when Lulu arrives, looking for Cody. Brook Lynn leaves. Dante tells Lulu that he met with Anna, who wants him to take a week off. She doesn’t want him near the investigation into Sam’s death. Lulu knows that it’s frustrating. They talk about Dante’s grief. She says that she owes him apology for what she said and did in Prague, but he brushes that off. She is grateful for Sam’s sacrifice. Dante opens up to her about how he feels, and plans he had with Sam. Lulu feels sympathetic. She tells him that she’s so happy that he had a love like that. In turn, he tells her that he doesn’t blame her for Sam’s death. Leaving, she tells him that he knows where to find her if he needs her.

Brook Lynn and Lois have coffee. Brook Lynn tells Lois that she was with Dante, who fathered the child she gave away years ago. She thought about telling Chase but decided against pursuing any more information. Lois is supportive but looks guilty. Brook Lynn opines that she doesn’t know her child’s gender or name; just the birthdate. The expression on Lois’ face tells that she knows something.

Update written by Joseph

Kayla joins Steve at the church for Jada and Rafe’s wedding. Kayla says she wanted to go to Jada’s bachelorette party but she was stuck at work all night. Steve jokes that she just has to not upstage the bride.

Jada gets a call from “Rafe”. Arnold says he just wanted one last call with his gorgeous fiancée before she becomes his wife.

Javi runs in to Leo in the town square. Leo says he was just telling Marlena how happy they are. Javi says no and that he’s mad at Leo because he ruined Jada and Rafe’s wedding. Leo asks what he’s talking about and asks how he could ruin a wedding that hasn’t even happened yet. Javi reveals it might not ever happen because last night, “Rafe” cheated on Jada.

Jada tells “Rafe” that she’s glad he called because when she didn’t hear from him, she worried about him getting cold feet. He assures that nothing can stop him from making her his bride today.

Rafe knocks out EJ and declares there’s not going to be a wedding as he then escapes the secret room in the underground tunnels.

Kayla asks Steve how the bachelor party was. Steve thinks some of them might need hangover remedies but it wasn’t exactly good as he found out that “Rafe” took a case, working for EJ and didn’t tell him about it. Kayla thought they hated each other. Steve says that didn’t stop “Rafe” from taking the job. Kayla asks about the job. Steve says that “Rafe” claims that EJ hired him to track down Sloan Peterson and a couple weeks ago, “Rafe” told Jada that he sent him out of town on a case which he did not do. Kayla asks what he thinks is going on. Steve says he doesn’t know but didn’t feel last night was the time to get in to it. Steve adds that after the wedding, he and Rafe are going to have a talk about their working relationship.

Leo tells Javi that’s crazy since Rafe is head over heels in love with Jada, so he can’t believe he would cheat on her. Javi reveals that it was with the exotic dancer that Leo hired for the bachelor party. Leo argues that Sally would never do that but Javi says Sally must have called in sick because they sent Savannah which shocks Leo. Javi remarks that this isn’t the Rafe he knows.

Arnold tells Jada that they could do a photobooth setup at the wedding. Jada notes that Javi did pretty much all the planning so she’s beyond grateful to him since work’s been crazy. Jada feels they are in for a few surprises and tells “Rafe” that she has a surprise for him. Jada says she loves him and will see him soon as she hangs up. Jada then tells Stephanie that he sounded upbeat like he can’t wait to marry her. Stephanie says she told her there’s nothing to worry about.

DiMera Enterprise worker Rita Leslie goes to the DiMera Mansion and calls out for anyone but receives no response, complaining about no one being there to greet a guest. She looks at the portrait of Stefano and remarks that this wouldn’t happen when he was around but times have changed. Rafe then emerges from the tunnels, shocking Rita.

Kayla talks about what a great guy Rafe is and insists there must be a logical reason for him to go behind Steve’s back. Steve says he sure hopes so. Steve asks Kayla not to say anything to Jada about this since it’s her day and he wants it to go off without a hitch. Kayla agrees not to say a word. Steve wishes Jada’s father Marcus could be there. Kayla knows Marcus would be grateful that Steve is stepping in to give Jada away. Kayla tells Steve that she loves him and they kiss until Paulina arrives and jokes for them to get a room.

Leo tells Javi that he’s so sorry, asking who would have thought since Rafe is so straight in every sense. Leo asks if Javi could have jumped to the wrong conclusion. Javi assures that he walked in on them in his hotel room and she was wearing a towel, then “Rafe” admitted to sleeping with her and pleaded with him not to tell Jada. Javi questions how to keep this a secret from her.

Jada tearfully talks to her mom on the phone about how she wishes she could have her there, but she will send lots of pictures. Jada tells her to focus on getting better and says she loves her so much as she hangs up. Jada tells Stephanie that she can’t cry anymore. Stephanie asks how her mom is. Jada says she’s okay but has a really bad flu, so she’s glad she didn’t try to fly out even though she wishes she could be there. Jada talks about not getting as emotional at her first wedding.

Rita introduces herself to Rafe. Rafe asks if she has a phone as he needs to call the police. Rita asks why and questions what he was doing coming out of the walls. Rafe explains that EJ was holding him hostage and Arnold has been posing as him. Rafe says Jada is about to get married, so he needs to stop this. Rita looks through her purse for her phone.

Arnold gets dressed in his hotel room and calls EJ.

EJ remains knocked out in the room in the tunnels with his phone ringing nearby.

Arnold leaves EJ a message that he needs to hear from him for his final marching orders and tells him to call him back. Gabi then shows up at his door.

Rafe asks Rita to hurry before he passes out. Rita then pulls out a taser and tases Rafe.

Steve and Kayla greet Paulina, who explains that Abe got stuck at the Body and Soul office since they fell behind after Bonnie’s fall down the elevator shaft. Kayla is glad she didn’t have to tape today. Paulina congratulates Kayla on stepping in for Bonnie. Kayla says Abe is hard to say no to. Steve invites Paulina to sit with them if she’s flying solo tonight. Paulina then reveals that she’s officiating the wedding. Paulina jokes about all the directions she got from Javi as the wedding planner. Paulina declares that Rafe and Jada are going to get hitched without a single hitch.

Leo suggests Javi could never tell Jada, admitting it could cause anxiety and nightmares but it beats having to see the expression on her face. Leo then decides he might not want to live that way and asks if he’s going to tell Jada about what he saw. Javi asks how he can and says that “Rafe” gave him a whole bro code speech and laid a huge guilt trip on him, so he agreed to keep quiet. Javi argues that Jada deserves to know and she’s wearing his mother’s engagement ring. Javi remarks that his mother would be turning over in her grave if she knew what “Rafe” had done, but on the other hand, family was everything to her and Rafe is his flesh and blood. Javi states that he planned the whole wedding and asks how he could now destroy the whole thing.

Jada comes out of her room in her wedding dress. Stephanie tells her that she is stunning and says Rafe won’t know what hit him..

EJ emerges from the tunnels and is shocked to find Rita in the living room with Rafe unconscious on the couch. EJ questions what is going on here. Rita explains that she just came from the police station and brought the information he requested on Jada. EJ says that’s great but asks what the hell happened. Rita explains that she was looking for EJ but Rafe came staggering out of the tunnels, saying that EJ kidnapped him and was holding him hostage, then he asked for her phone to call the police so she tasered him. EJ questions Rita taking it upon herself. Rita says she did out of being loyal to EJ and his family, especially now that he’s no longer in his position to make his charges vanish. EJ thanks Rita and says he’s in her debt. Rita says to secure her silence, she hopes this will be reflected in her yearly bonus. EJ agrees and then Rita asks him to tell her exactly what he’s up to.

Gabi questions “Rafe” as to why he answered the door, expecting EJ. He explains that EJ hired him to do some work for him then he stuck him with the bill, so he thought he was coming. Gabi calls EJ a cheap bastard and says Rafe could’ve just asked her if he needed money while getting involved with EJ is never good. “Rafe” insists that he hates EJ as much as Gabi does. Gabi asks “Rafe” to promise not to let him get dragged down by EJ.

EJ asks Rita for help getting rid of Rafe but Rita says she did the tasering, so EJ does the lifting.

Paulina admits to Kayla and Steve that she’s surprised to be officiating the wedding since she and Rafe haven’t been BFFs since she relieved him of his duties. Kayla suggests maybe he’s trying to mend fences. Paulina comments on it being cold outside. Steve thinks all Jada and Rafe care about is becoming husband and wife by the end of the ceremony.

Jada tells Stephanie if they are ready, they can get going. Stephanie stops to give Jada a gift from her sister Talia, which is the necklace their dad got her when she was little. Jada says Talia never took it off, so she can’t believe she sent it to her. Stephanie puts the necklace on Jada and says she’s just so sorry her family couldn’t be there today. Jada responds that her family is in her heart and she has an adopted family in the Johnsons. Jada adds she’s gaining a whole new family as well. Stephanie presents a sixpence for her shoe for luck, but feels she won’t need luck as she and Rafe are going to live happily ever after.

“Rafe” assures Gabi that he knows how to handle EJ. Gabi says she thought she did too. Gabi presents him a birthday gift sent from Eli and Lani which is a bottle of champagne for his wedding night. Gabi asks if “Rafe” is ready to go and says they can drive together. He questions her not having a hot date. Gabi explain that JJ got called in to a court case. He jokes that maybe Jada will throw her the bouquet. Gabi tells him that she’s so happy he and Jada found each other, saying he deserves all the happiness in the world and she loves him so much as they hug. They then exit together.

Javi asks Leo what he thinks he should do. Leo jokes that people rarely ask for his advice. Leo says before Javi came to Salem, he knew a secret that caused him so much guilt and angst that he would never do it over again. Leo believes Javi should tell Jada, but points out that he doesn’t know what it’s like to come from a loving family. Leo notes that if he did have that, he might feel obligated to the other family member. Leo points out that Javi lives with Rafe. Javi complains that this isn’t helping him at all.

EJ and Rita drag Rafe back down the tunnels to the secret room and tie him back up. EJ says he knew he could count on her. Rita responds that she’s loyal to all DiMeras. Rita notes that it would’ve helped if he told her the entire story from the beginning. EJ says it was on a need to know basis, so he was protecting her. Rita assumes that if Jada is on her way to the altar, that Arnold has something to do with his plan which EJ confirms. EJ explains that Arnold recently resurfaced despite being paid off. Rita recalls the last time Arnold stood in for Rafe, it went south very quickly. EJ assures that he has no intention of that, but Rafe stumbled upon Arnold so he had no choice but to put Rafe on ice for the past few weeks. EJ mentions being ousted from his position by Jada. Rita guesses he’s going to use this information to return the favor.

Javi and Leo arrive at the wedding. Paulina questions who invited Leo. Leo introduces Javi as his boyfriend. Paulina mentions meeting Javi, who says he loves her dress. Steve adds that he met Javi at the bachelor party while Kayla introduces herself. Leo asks if Javi has decided what to do. Javi says he hasn’t yet.

Rita tells EJ it’s a novel way to use this information but it remains to be seen if it will accomplish his goals. EJ says the clock is ticking and he’s already wasted time with this distraction. EJ is sure Rafe will have questions when he wakes up, so he asks Rita to keep an eye on Rafe. Rita says EJ owes her more than one as EJ exits.

Leo warns Javi that his window of opportunity to do something is dwindling. Javi says he just needs more time to think. Gabi comes over and praises Javi’s wedding planning. “Rafe” comes over and tells Javi that this day would not have been possible without him. Stephanie arrives and greets Kayla and Steve. Stephanie tells Steve that it means the world to Jada that he is stepping in for her father and walking her down the aisle. Kayla goes to take her seat while Steve joins Jada. Steve talks with Jada about he and Marcus growing up and how his family was everything Marcus dreamed of, adding that he was so proud of Jada. Steve wishes Jada all the happiness that Marcus had in his marriage and that he has in his. Steve states that when you find the right person and make a family with them, there’s nothing better in the whole world. The music then begins so Steve walks Jada down the aisle to “Rafe” and Paulina. Steve tells “Rafe” to take good care of her as he takes his seat. Paulina then begins the ceremony.

Rafe wakes up in the secret room, tied up again with Rita at his side. Rafe says he thought Rita was going to help him. Rita says she didn’t and tells Rafe not to waste his energy because he won’t slip out this time. Rafe repeats that he should’ve known she was just a DiMera stooge.

EJ declares that everything is in his place, so the rest is up to Arnold if he doesn’t screw this up.

“Rafe” responds that he’s sorry but he can’t marry her, leaving Jada shocked.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

Now, if anyone here can show just cause as to why this couple should not be lawfully joined together, let him speak now or forever hold his peace.

I have something to say.

What is going on here?

Leo, what the hell are you doing?

Well, remember when I said Rafe might shoot the messenger? Let me take the hit.

Leo, this– your interrupting behavior is becoming a bad habit. First, at Jude’s christening, and now at this wedding.

I know. But this is important.

Oh, for god’s sake.

Commissioner Hunter, I know we don’t really know each other. Well, there was the whole Dimitri fiasco, of course. But there is something I need to tell you.

OK, what is it?

It’s nothing. Nothing.

Are you sure you don’t want me to–

Thank you for trying to protect me, but this is my secret to tell. Ladies and gentlemen, I have something to say. [suspenseful music]

[siren wailing]

Well, thank you again for testifying. I’m sorry the trial got moved up so last minute.

Yeah, it’s fine.

Well, we would have been screwed if you and JJ hadn’t been able to take the stand.

Yeah, well, just doing my job.

Well, I appreciate that, especially since it meant you had to miss Jada and Rafe’s wedding. Do you think it’s still too late to go?

I’d show up in the middle of the ceremony? No, I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t appreciate that.

Yeah, probably not. Well, at least you got to celebrate Rafe at the bachelor party last night.

Yeah, yeah, although I could have done without Chanel throwing herself at me.

Chanel threw herself at you? What– oh, when you went to drive her home?

Well, I tracked her down a small bar and she was desperate for a friendly face.

Yeah, well, she was drunk and upset about Johnny.

Yeah, she was definitely both of those things.

So did you two–

No, Belle, we didn’t sleep together, unlike you and EJ. [tense music]

“Everything’s in place, Feniger. “The rest is up to you. Don’t screw this up.”

Javi, my dear cousin, I am sure whatever wedding surprise you have in store, it can wait. [phone beeps] I swore I’d turned this damn thing off. Oh, my god.

Rafe, what is it? Is everything OK?

Whatever it is that you have to say, it’s going to have to wait, because I’ve got something to say now.

Rafe, you’re scaring me. What is going on?

I’m sorry, but I can’t marry you.

[indistinct murmuring]

Excuse us. What do you mean, you can’t marry me? What are you talking about?

I can’t marry you because you’re not the woman who I thought you were.

[soft orchestration]

announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Rafe, what is this about?

So sorry to interrupt the ceremony, Paulina. I never wanted it to be like this.

I don’t understand. Why would you say that I’m not the woman that you thought I was? What does that even mean?

I hate that I have to do this right now.

What is he doing?

I have no idea.

The truth is, I’m still processing this all myself.

Processing what? Rafe, what is going on? What was in that text message that you got?

OK, you remember when I told you that EJ hired me to find Sloan Petersen?

Yeah, of course I do. You told me that EJ brought you on a case so that you can make extra money for a wedding surprise.

Yeah, and that part was true. But the other part about the case, I was lying about that. [tense music]

Shawn, what happened with EJ, it shouldn’t have happened. It was a– a mistake.

Hey, look. You and I are divorced. How you spend your time and who you spend it with is your business. I– I never should have brought it up.

Except you did. So it kind of seems like you’re upset about it.

OK, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I am. I am, because I just– I don’t know. I thought you had better taste.

Better taste?

Belle, the guy is scum. I mean, he always has been.

OK, so what, we’re going to start rating each other’s sexual partners now? EJ and I don’t have a relationship, OK? It was a one-time thing, and it’s over.

OK, fine. Fine. And I meant what I said, all right? It’s your business.

Yeah, except it kind of seems like you have more you’d like to say.

No. No, actually. No.

Go ahead, Shawn. Go ahead and say it. There’s really no reason to pull any punches now.

Well, as someone who’s had a run-in with addiction, I’ve become very– very attuned to when someone’s lying.

So what, think I’m lying to you about EJ?

No, Belle, I think you’re lying to yourself.

“Don’t mess this up for me, Feniger. Stick to the script and drop the hammer on Jada Hunter.”

What is on your phone?

It’s about the case.

The case that you told me you were just lying about? Was EJ your client or wasn’t he?

EJ was my client. But the case– the case was about someone else, not Sloan Petersen.

Who?

You.

What do you mean, the case was about me? Why would EJ hire you to investigate me?

Rafe would never go behind Jada’s back. Right? What? Is there something you two aren’t telling me?

No, we don’t know anything about this.

EJ came to me with a request– I dig up dirt on you.

What?

He blamed you for costing him the DA job, and he was desperate to prove that you weren’t as clean as you seemed.

What kind of dirt was he looking for?

Didn’t matter. Anything I could find.

OK. So EJ was upset that I got him fired.

Yeah. He was convinced that you were the one who talked Paulina into replacing him with Belle. So he figured if I could find something and then he could leverage that, he could maybe get his job back.

OK, so that explains why he came to you. But what I don’t understand is, why would you want to help him?

Yeah.

“Don’t forget to act like it’s killing you. “You’re the tormented groom with a broken heart that needs to play to the back row.” [door slams]

EJ.

Belle. I didn’t think I’d be seeing you again today.

Well, I just came from court.

Oh. Did you win the case? Yes. As a matter of fact, I did.

Let me guess. You’ve come to gloat?

No. I came here because Shawn was a witness, and I’m just– I’m just agitated.

Well, I can see that.

Yeah, well, he gave me an earful about you.

I’m sure he did.

Yeah, you know, it just wasn’t supposed to go like this.

I can understand why you felt uncomfortable seeing him.

[chuckles] Yeah. You mean because he– he walked in on you trying to sneak out of my mom’s house this morning?

It was a tad awkward.

Yeah, just a tad.

[chuckles] So have you come for an apology, or–

What? No. I came here to talk about how we’re going to handle our relationship going forward. [tense music]

What the heck is this?

Rafe, answer me. Why would you ever agree to dig up dirt on me, for EJ DiMera of all people?

Will you stop looking at that phone and answer me?

She deserves an answer, Rafe.

Yeah, you’re right, Paulina. She does. OK? I agreed to do it because I figured it’d be easy money.

Excuse me?

EJ was offering me a boatload of cash to find something on you. I was sure that there would be nothing. Right? So he’s going to pay me a ton of cash. I’m going to do a little research. Then I’m going to come back to EJ and ruin his day because I’m going to tell him you’re clean. And we’ll have a ton of money for the wedding, for the honeymoon. And EJ is going to be a big loser. It’s a win-win for us, right?

OK, so what’s the problem with that?

Yeah, well, the problem is, is that I found something.

You found something?

Yes.

That’s impossible, Rafe. What could you have possibly found on Jada?

He can’t have found a damn thing. Commissioner Hunter has been nothing but an upstanding citizen and a diligent officer of the law. She would never knowingly committed an infraction, much less one that’s going to qualify as dirt.

I hear you. And I didn’t want to believe it, either. But it’s all right here.

What do you mean by “handle our relationship”?

We don’t have a relationship, EJ.

You’re the one who used the word.

No, I didn’t– I didn’t mean “relationship” relationship. I meant, like, ugh! It’s– it was never in the plan to have my newly ex-husband discover that you and I spent the night together.

An unfortunate consequence of an otherwise pleasant evening. Look, Shawn is a grown man. I can’t imagine he expected you to join a nunnery after the divorce went through. But he is going to have to deal with you having a life apart from him.

Well, he’s not the only one who’s going to have to deal with that.

Who else?

You know who else. My mother.

So you’re worried she’s going to shout it from the town square. Come on. She’s a psychiatrist.

I am just saying it’s out there now. And the more people who know about it–

The more likely your sister is going to find out about it.

Yes. And then it’s only a matter of time before Hurricane Sami comes blowing into town.

Samantha does tend to bluster and cause catastrophic damage. But we’ve discussed this, Belle. Worrying about her finding out what happened between us is a total waste of energy.

Well, you didn’t seem to think that way last time.

And I’m over that now, as I thought I’ve made it clear. Look, I’m not going to live in fear of her anymore. Are you?

No, of course not. I’m just– I think that we should be prepared, because you never know what she might do.

So did you just come all this way to talk strategy about Samantha, or was there something else on your mind? [jazzy music]

What do you have on there? Let me see it.

Jada.

Just tell me what you found.

OK. Look, I talked to one of the detectives on the force, a friend of mine who owed me a favor. And I asked him to take a cursory look at your case files.

Which detective?

Well, I’m not going to tell you that. OK? I– I told him that I needed to show proof to my client, when we looked at your files, that everything looked ordinary.

So this person went through my files?

Yeah, he agreed to look at them. But again, again, I was not expecting to find anything. OK? And then with the wedding and the bachelor party– the whole thing is– it– it had completely slipped my mind until–

Until you got that text.

Yeah. Until I was standing up there at the altar ready to marry the woman I loved. Then I got the alert on my phone and–

And– and what? What?

And he told me that when he looked at the files, there were some disturbing discrepancies, instances where rules were bent or broken.

That’s not possible.

What kind of rules are we talking about here, Rafe? How many?

None, Paulina, I promise you. I don’t know what Rafe is talking about right now.

Well, I’m afraid it’s all here, a very disturbing trail of lies and corruption.

What other reason would I have for coming over here?

I don’t know. You tell me.

Uh, whatever you’re thinking, you can forget it.

Who said I’m thinking anything? I mean, if you ask me, thinking is overrated.

Well, just so we’re clear, whatever happened last night is never happening again.

Good to know.

It was a– a drunken mistake.

I was sober, but I hear you.

[scoffs] I am the district attorney. OK? I have to carry myself a certain way, and I have to make good choices.

Choices are important.

So I’m leaving.

Bye. Go. Go on.

And if it were one case, I might have been able to write it off as simple mistake, an oversight, even one bad decision. But for what the detective uncovered, it’s a pattern.

No, no, no. This is all one big mistake.

Yeah. I wish to God it were. But from what my friend says, he’s compiled an entire dossier of all the questionable things that you’ve done.

Dossier?

Yes. With all the evidence against you.

OK, well, let’s see it. I’ll respond to each and every allegation. I have nothing to hide. So let me see it. Where’s it at?

I have it right here. [tense music]

Shawn, what are you doing here? I thought you got called to court.

Yeah, I was in court. Then I went back to the station, and I found this on my desk. But listen, right now is not the time to discuss this.

What is it?

It’s a dossier.

The detective must have left it for you.

You’ve looked at it?

It’s several case files from when Rafe was in the hospital and Jada was acting as commissioner.

And did you see who put them on your desk?

No.

What do the files say?

I haven’t had the chance to look over them in detail, but I did notice some– some highlighted events, issues with certain timelines, evidence, and– and even warrants.

No, that’s–

What does that mean?

Look these– these files seem to show that Acting Commissioner Hunter was– was rogue during all these investigations.

No. No, no. That’s not true. I always follow the letter of the law.

Well, these documents seem to show that there was a history of skirting the rules to ensure conviction, maybe just to, I don’t know, boost the department’s clearance.

No, no, I would never do that.

You were under a lot of pressure. You didn’t even know if I was going to live, if I was going to wake up. And you had to prove to Mayor Price and to the whole town that you were capable of handling it.

I was capable, and I still am. I would never do anything underhanded, I swear.

Well, unfortunately, that’s not how it looks.

Let me see those files.

Actually, I think that I should take those.

We shouldn’t be doing this.

Shouldn’t we?

Then why the hell are you doing it?

I told you. I told you when I accepted the job offer from EJ, I was so sure about you. I was so sure about you I would have bet my life I wasn’t going to find any dirt.

But now, the evidence seems– seems pretty clear-cut. So I think it’s best we don’t get married– at least, not while you’re under investigation.

Investigation?

I hate to say it, but I believe– I believe that Rafe is right. Now, as mayor, I can’t be affiliated with any kind of wrongdoing. And I can’t, in good conscience, perform this ceremony, not– at least not until we get to the bottom of the situation.

This is crazy. None of this is true. It’s not true.

I wish that were the case.

I wish I’d never found any of this.

Jada, let’s– let’s just hope. Let’s just hope that this is nothing but a terrible misunderstanding.

No, this is not a misunderstanding. This is a lie. It’s a lie. It’s one big, ugly lie. Shawn, come on. I mean, how can you not see through this? You don’t even know who left this file on your desk.

Jada–

Detective Brady, would you please, please take Commissioner Hunter to the station for questioning?

Wait, questioning? What, right now?

Is this really necessary?

Yeah. Couldn’t this wait? I mean, she’s still in her wedding dress, for god’s sake.

The sooner we go through the process, the better it will be. Detective Brady.

Jada, I’m sorry. ** * [sultry music]

I can’t believe Rafe let that happen. I can’t believe Shawn and Paulina let that happen. I should go down to the station and try to–

No, no, no. There’s nothing you can do down there, Stephanie. No.

I can support my friend. I can deal with the press.

I trust Shawn and Paulina to keep this quiet. Look, I know you feel terrible.

I feel so terrible. Jada was basically arrested at her own wedding.

No, she wasn’t arrested.

It was just as humiliating. Dad, you know she didn’t do those things that they’re saying. I don’t care what’s in that dossier.

Well, I agree with you. I mean, everything that Jada has ever shown us is that she’s a good and decent person. I– I really can’t imagine that she would break the law to prove herself as a commissioner.

She wouldn’t. And that’s why we need to strategize.

You mean you want to help her?

Of course. First, we need to know what Rafe found and what evidence they have against her.

And then maybe we can prove that this was just a huge misunderstanding, right?

Let’s hope so.

It has to be. There’s no other way to explain it.

We’ll do everything we can to make things better for her. I promise.

You know the worst part of it? Her fiancé did this to her. What is wrong with him?

Rafe, why did you do this?

I had no choice.

Sure you did. You didn’t have to get involved with EJ in the first place. And I don’t understand why the hell you did, which is why we’re going home to talk about this right now.

Yeah, I’m not doing that.

What do you mean?

I mean, after the day that I have had, I am not going home to answer a bunch of questions.

Oh, so you’re not in the mood?

Please, Gabi. Please. All right? I know it looks like I’m the bad guy here, but I’m just trying to do the right thing. OK? I just– I just need to think.

Fine. But we will talk about this later.

OK. [somber music]

My god. I can’t believe this happened. My wedding is ruined.

You OK?

No. No, I’m not OK. OK? I just found out that my bride is completely corrupt. I thought, morally, she was a great person, but it turns out she’s doing all this shady stuff behind my back.

You know, I– I got to say, Rafe, that you’re not in any position to judge.

Excuse me?

Oh, come on. Let’s not pretend that you haven’t made some mistakes of your own.

What are you talking about?

You know what I’m talking about. What you did with the stripper?

Paulina, this is insane. I mean, you can’t possibly believe that whatever is in those files are true.

I don’t know, Jada. I really don’t know.

But you know me. Am I the kind of person who’s going to play fast and loose with the law just to look good as a commissioner? Is that what you think of me?

Of course not.

You were with me the whole time when Rafe was in a coma. And you– and you saw that I was struggling to keep the department on track.

I remember how difficult it was for you. But maybe it was those struggles that led you to cut corners.

No. I didn’t, and I wouldn’t. My focus was on carrying Rafe’s legacy on as commissioner. I spent every spare minute I had at his bedside. I was afraid that he wasn’t even going to wake up.

Well, thank god. He did.

But how could he do that? How could he dig up dirt on me? How could he tell me that he loved me in one breath and at the same time try to find something that would hurt me?

He did say that he only took the case because he thought he would find nothing.

Still, my fiancé was looking for dirt in my past.

Why? Why would he do that in the first place?

Ah, see, I almost forgot. Before I exposed Jada, you were about to tell everyone what you saw in my hotel room, weren’t you?

Look, look, look. Don’t blame Javi. I’m the one who stood up first.

Oh, yeah. I remember. Why would you tell this creep? Talk about a rat. And what happened to guy code, huh? “What happens at the bachelor party stays at the bachelor party”?

First of all, the party was over. I had to tell someone. It was eating me up.

All right, whatever. You know what? It doesn’t matter now anyway, because my wedding is in the shambles, and the love of my life just cheated her way into my job. So if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to go figure out what I’m going to do with the rest of my life. [somber music]

I can’t believe that just went down.

Tell me about it. I thought I had a lock on the craziest wedding interruption in this town, but that– that just blew it out of the water.

OK. So what do we do now?

What do we do?

Yeah. Do we still tell Jada that Rafe cheated on her? I mean, we did decide that it was the right thing to do.

True, but–

But what?

Well, you wanted Jada to know the truth before she committed herself to Rafe for life. Doesn’t look like they’re getting married anytime soon. And considering that Rafe betrayed her twice in the last 24 hours, I think the commissioner dodged a bullet.

Yeah, you’re right. If we tell Jada now, we’ll just be kicking her when she’s down. And she’s got enough problems as it is.

Take Jada into the interrogation room. And the two of you just go over all this piece by piece.

I’m really sorry to do this.

Me too.

Do you want to wait for your lawyer or a union rep?

Let’s just get this over with. My fiancé just tore me apart at what was supposed to be our wedding. It’s not like this day can get any worse.

I just don’t get it. I mean, I thought Rafe was a really good guy, and then he does this.

I know.

He goes after the woman he claims he loves in such a cruel way?

Well, he has been making some very questionable choices lately.

Yeah, I have to say, I couldn’t imagine this in a million years. It really is unbelievable.

It’s more than unbelievable. It’s insane.

We know Jada. She is one of the most moral, ethical people I’ve ever met.

That’s why we need to consider the source.

You mean that detective friend of Rafe’s?

No, I’m talking about where this case originated. This has EJ DiMera’s filthy fingerprints all over it.

So do you still think this was a mistake?

[chuckles] My brain’s not really in thinking mode right now.

[laughs] Good. Good. As I said, thinking is overrated.

No argument here.

Ohh. [phone beeps]

Hold that thought.

No. You’re not going to answer your phone right now.

Sorry. Sorry, I’ve just been dealing with some staffing issues here at the house.

Good news?

Very.

[sighs] [phone beeps]

Phyllis doesn’t buy it. She’s still angry that Sharon framed Daniel, but the police are dropping all charges. He’s not sure how he feels about that. Summer agrees that they should support Daniel instead of blaming anyone. Phyllis agrees to let it go, for him. They plan to start a business together. Billy arrives and tells them that he can help. Daniel doesn’t want Billy’s help to go up against Victor to get Chancellor back, but he assures them that he’s no longer interested in doing that. He’s interested in doing a new business venture with them. Daniel is skeptical, but Phyllis likes the idea. Billy hopes to build an “epic media empire.” Billy hopes to get the funding from Jack. Daniel tells him that they have to discuss it and get back to him.

Kyle tells Jack that Jordan and Ian held the Newmans hostage and shot Victor. Later, Diane and Kyle chat more about it. He admires Claire’s courage with regard to Jordan. She can tell that he and Claire have grown closer, but she’s worried because Claire is Victor’s granddaughter.

Victor’s kids and Nikki bring Victor home, treating Victor lovingly and with care. He doesn’t want to be handled that way, but Nikki tells him that he has to put up with it. He asks about whether they’ve dealt with anything that might become a problem later. They assure him that Ian confessed to Heather’s murder before he died. Victor can tell they made that up, but Nick and Adam think they need to do that so there isn’t a big investigation. They all just want to move on and forget Ian and Jordan. Jack comes by to make sure Nikki is okay, but Victor isn’t glad to see him. Jack expresses his sympathy for what they went through, but Victor knows that Jack is just there to see Nikki. Victor also tells Jack that he doesn’t want Kyle near Claire. Victor and Victoria argue about Kyle and Claire. Victoria hugs him before she leaves. He apologizes for being grumpy, saying that he’s in a lot of pain. Nikki tells him that she can’t believe he’s still opposed to Kyle. Victor just doesn’t want his family anywhere near the Abbots.

Jack goes home; Kyle leaves for the office but also plans to check on Claire. Jack fills Diane in on what happened with Victor. Jack is determined to keep Victor from interfering with Kyle.

Nate fills Amy and Audra in on his conversation with Damian. Meanwhile, “Damian” (whose real name is Holden) meets with the real Damian in the park. He tells him that Amy wants to reconnect with him. Damian is very suspicious and asks Holden to keep pretending to be him.

Bold & The Beautiful Transcript

Transcript provided by Suzanne and Thane

[tense music plays] You being honest with me, Poppy? My name is Poppy Nozawa, and I am here to see my daughter Luna Nozawa. Yes, ma’am. I heard you. Well, then I don’t understand what the problem is. She’s an inmate at this prison. She has to be here. No, she’s not. Well, then where is she? Where is Luna? [soft music plays] [Luna sniffles] Talking about this is clearly upsetting you.

No, I’m not upset.

The tears kinda give you away. No, this is gratitude. I’m so grateful for you, Bill. What you did for me, saving me– When I think about it, I just… I get overwhelmed. If it weren’t for you, I’d still be fighting for my life back in prison. You don’t have to be thrilled about the changes happening at Forrester, Steffy, but you did agree to them. Have I given you a reason to think I don’t? I just said I like Zende’s designs. And you implied that he has more reason to be here than I do

because he’s a Forrester.

I didn’t say that. It’s what you wanted me to hear. Okay, this arrangement isn’t gonna work if you read into every word coming out of my mouth. Well, I’m not.

No?

No. I’m just setting a boundary, one that you need to respect. And what’s that? Whether you like it or not, Carter runs Forrester now. Nothing and no one is going to undermine his authority. I’m not a saleswoman. No. You’re an artist. Each fragrance I create is a unique experience, a silent language… …like the one we speak now. Tu comprends? Oui. Carter’s running Forrester differently. Everybody contributes gives input, feels valued. I mean, the next big idea could come from anywhere, from this office to the mailroom. We treat everybody with respect. It doesn’t matter what their last name is. Even me? Yes. But Carter’s in charge, and you don’t want me to forget that. Steffy, my family and I have been under your thumb for ages, but times have changed.

Because of Carter.

Yes. Because of Carter. Your appeal, the… way you capture attention… there’s something about you, Daphne, and it’s not just your alluring fragrances. Alluring. Moi? Very. [heavy music plays] Luna’s not here in this prison? That’s correct. [chuckles] No, no. Okay. That’s not correct because I’ve seen her here in this room. So either bring her to me, or tell me where she is. Where is Luna? Answer me! I never wanted any of this. It wasn’t an accident, Luna. No. An accident I can live with. But not this. I never wanted to hurt anyone, but I did. I-I turned into a monster. What I did to Tom and Hollis and to Steffy… that’s my cousin’s wife. Could you be my daughter? Carter robbed my family of the business we created.

You can look at it like that.

The way it happened? Or you can focus on what he’s doing to improve it. You mean look at it your way. I thought you wanted to help. I’m here for my family legacy. To protect my investments. Oh, okay. ‘Cause it just seems like you’re complaining about the leadership. Well, I’m president, aren’t I? Aren’t I part of the leadership? I don’t know, are you? Do you even wanna be? Am I not allowed to have an opinion here? I’m not gonna keep quiet about this coup. Ooh. You’re still angry. Damn right, I am. Well, then what are you even doing here, Steffy? Why did you come back to Forrester Creations? I’m sorry. Ha ha. Sorry. Um…you’re very special, and what-what-what you have, Daphne, is very special, and your fragrances, they’re extraordinary, and I want to put them in the marketplace as soon as possible. Mm. In a hurry. Yeah, I’m…extremely motivated. Hmm. And, um… and I think our partnership will generate a lot of excitement.

I feel it already.

So do I. And, uh, we should capitalize on that, we should. A brand as exclusive as yours, it doesn’t need to wait for the right retail season. No, we can launch right away. A man of taste and action. I’m eager to get down to business. Down to business, indeed. Is-is Luna hurt? Is she in the infirmary?

No, ma’am. Nothing like that.

Well, then, like what? Okay. I don’t understand why you’re making this so difficult. Okay? Was she released? Was she transferred? What the hell is going on? Luna Nozawa is still in the prison system, but she’s no longer an inmate at this facility. Okay, so was she transferred to another prison? I can only tell you that she’s still incarcerated. Well, then, where? Please. Please tell me where.

Bill: You mentioned Steffy. You don’t usually do that. No, I don’t. You obviously regret what you did to her. More than I can say. It’s hard to talk about. Harder than Tom and Hollis? Steffy begged me to let her go. She told me to think about her family and her kids. Did you? Not then. But ever since, yeah. I think about them all the time and what their lives would be like if Finn didn’t find Steffy in time. Those poor, innocent kids. I mean, I-I kidnapped their mom. And I knew how much Finn loves Steffy, and I didn’t care. That’s how far gone I was, Bill. I mean, I could have ruined Finn’s life. He’s the only person in my whole family who ever gave a damn about me. [moody music plays] I need to know the truth. Well, I’m not surprised that you aren’t exactly supportive of the changes here at Forrester. Not all of them. Though I don’t like working in this office and having conversations like this. With me? I’ve never hidden my opinion about this takeover,

and I’m not going to.

And yet you agreed to work here. Obviously, you have an issue with that. I actually think you might be the one with the issue. Well, can you blame me? My grandfather built this company from the ground up. This was his dream. This was all of his hard work, and he entrusted it to me and my father, and you and Carter ripped it out of our hands. You deceived us. So, yes, I’m gonna tell it like it is. Oh, so there’s no reason for me to question your motives then? I’ve been very clear about those too. Right. Uh, to protect your legacy and investment. Yes. Oh, is that the real reason, or is there more to it? [edgy music plays] Um, let me show you what I have in mind. I’d love to know what’s in that handsome head of yours. Well, as-as you know, uh, fragrances, they traditionally launch during the holidays. That’s a prime sales window, even for the…

highest end fragrances.

Mmm. And, uh…but you–you, you’re in a whole nother universe. The Daphne Rose brand generates sales, regardless of the season, and the numbers suggest your strength in the marketplace– I mean, no one can touch you. Tell me more, s’il vous plait. Well, I-I’ve put together some projections, and, uh, the faster we launch, the bigger the numbers. And…look, waiting for the next retail season, it can impact your… Yeah. Wouldn’t want that. Well, take a look. [soft music plays] It’s not like she just wandered off. This is a prison. So she’s being held somewhere. All right, fine. If you can’t tell me,

then find me someone who can.

I assure you, ma’am– If you wanna assure me, then let me see my daughter. Hey, I want a straight answer, and I want it now. What have you done with my daughter? Where is Luna? Sorry. I’m not at liberty to say. [stammers]

Luna: I’m horrified by all of it. Every terrible thing I did. But you’re most ashamed of going after Steffy. Listen, I know that I took two lives and I– I…I can’t even begin to comprehend that. And as awful as that is, I didn’t really know them. But I know Steffy. She’s family. And she’s always been so kind and supportive to me, at work and as a relative. And I turned on her. She confronted me and I– [sniffling] You panicked. It’s like all the rage and resentment inside me just kept pouring out. All the years of fear and anger and frustration. I– I don’t know. It’s like I truly became a different person. It didn’t matter that Steffy has a son with Finn. I adore Hayes, but… in that moment, I couldn’t see Steffy as a wife or a mother. She was just another person standing in the way of me and everything that I’ve always wanted. It was all falling apart, and I was desperate. There was no family ties strong enough to stop me. [tense music plays] Power’s made you paranoid, Hope. Well, you can’t be too careful, especially when it comes to someone who’s called me a thief and a criminal. Facts. You and Carter took something that didn’t belong to you. You can act like you have the moral high ground here, Steffy, but you really don’t, not after all of the years of everything you’ve put me through, both personally and professionally. So of course I am wary of you. I would be a fool not to be. Wow. You really aren’t giving up. No. Not until I get a real answer. I really don’t have anything to say, Hope. Well, the truth would be nice. I mean, it’s just the two of us here. Carter’s not present. You don’t have to put on a show. He already gave you the job, Steffy, so… why’d you take it? What’s really going on with you? [whimsical music plays] [exhales] I, um… I had marketing look at your placement in the luxury brand arena, and your recognition scores– they’re off the charts.

Mm-hmm.

Joining Daphne Rose with the House of Forrester, that… increases your impact exponentially. [small laugh] A good pairing. We are. Our–our brands are. We are very… Compatible. Yeah. Well, I-I was gonna say– well, I– I can act–I can-I can show you. Let me just, um…[murmurs] Am I distracting you, Carter? W–uh… it’s-it’s the scent. It’s, uh, ha ha– I’m losing my… my train of thought. It’s… it’s overwhelming. It’s very… powerful. Like you can get lost in the woman wearing it? In that moment, I forgot everything. I forgot who I am. How much I love Finn. You were that close? We were. I mean, we didn’t really see each other much, but I knew that he cared. I couldn’t really depend on anyone in my family, but my cousin Finn was always there for me. I mean, pretty much the only happy memories from my childhood include him. And…I destroyed that. If he ever sees me again, he’s never gonna be able to look at me the same. [tense music plays]

Finn: I need to know the truth.

Poppy: Finn, just stop. -Stop asking these questions. -No. I’m not gonna let it go. I am just as shocked as you are that Tom is not Luna’s father.

Finn: I have a right to know, and you need to tell me if I am Luna’s father.

Poppy: Luna is not your daughter. Did you see Steffy before she left? I don’t know what you’re asking. I’m asking if you know where my wife is.

Poppy: There’s no reason for you to be questioning Luna’s paternity, because you are not her father. [timer beeps] [beeping]

Finn: Was it just me, or was there someone else?

Poppy: Okay, yes, there were others because I was young and I was single and I was with you just once.

Finn: Well, then, I need to know if I am Luna’s father. [echoing] Father…father… [intense music plays] There’s two lines. It’s positive. Poppy lied to me. It’s me. I’m the father. Luna’s my daughter. [intense music escalates]

Recap written by Suzanne

In his office, Finn wonders if Poppy has been honest with him. He runs a DNA test. While he waits, he has flashbacks to dealing with Poppy and Luna. He then learns that Luna is his daughter, much to his dismay. He sits down and cries, upset.

Poppy goes to the prison and is surprised to learn that Luna is not there. She’s astonished when they won’t tell her where Luna went.

Luna tells Bill that she’s grateful for him for getting her out. Luna pretends to be upset about everything she did – especially kidnapping Steffy. Bill questions her. She complains that she’s destroyed her relationship with Finn – the only one in her family who’s ever been there for her.

Hope tells Steffy that she doesn’t appreciate her snarky remarks; she wants her to respect Carter’s authority. She points out that everyone’s opinion is now valued and respected at Forrester. They argue about Carter’s taking over the company. Hope is suspicious about why Steffy is really there.

Daphne flirts with Carter, under the pretense of showing him her fragrances. He’s clearly attracted to her, but he seems to come to his senses and goes back to being all business. She keeps flirting with him as he tells her that they should be able to launch her scents right away. He’s still distracted by her as she keeps flirting, complimenting and touching him.

Days Opinions For The Week Of January 27, 2025

gn=”center”>Opinion Article

by Michele & Cheryl

Belle and EJ from Days

Does Holly have any friends other than Sophia? Whenever she has a problem with Tate, she goes running to Doug. Why doesn’t she go to one of her other friends? She needs to stop telling him all her problems, especially since she doesn’t know him. We know the writers are heading towards putting them together, but it doesn’t make sense for her to keep talking to someone she barely knows about her boyfriend.

Why did Stephanie tell Chanel that she had her back when it concerned Johnny? Stephanie is Johnny’s cousin, yet she sided with Chanel. Johnny is the one in the wrong, but Stephanie could show some loyalty to her cousin. Stephanie has no loyalty to her family or else she wouldn’t have told Chanel that she would support her.

Belle needs to make up her mind about her feelings for EJ. One minute she considered him a regret that she slept with him and the next she defended sleeping with him again. Does she want to be with him or not? If she doesn’t, she has a hard way of showing it. She may as well give in to temptation and be with EJ if she’s going to keep sleeping with him.

Speaking of EJ and Belle, Marlena was upset about Belle being with EJ after what he’s done to the family. Did Marlena forget that she was willing to give Ben the key to the city after he tried to kill Will? If she’s going to be upset about what EJ’s done to the family, she should be upset with Ben for what he did to her grandson. She must have selective anger when it comes to her family.

We were shocked that Shawn defended Johnny to Chanel. Shawn and Johnny barely interact with each other, yet he was willing to defend Johnny to Chanel. It was good to see family look out for each other even if they don’t interact with each other. We applaud Shawn for telling Chanel that she should fight for her marriage considering he wasn’t willing to do that for his own marriage.

What is EJ’s end game? Does he plan on killing Rafe or keeping him in the wine cellar for life? We see how the writers are trying to make EJ come off like a saint because he’s feeding Rafe, but the man is still holding him hostage. Does EJ expect his plan to work and keep Rafe alive? It doesn’t make sense to keep Rafe tied up in the cellar. How long does he think he can keep people out of there before Rafe is caught?

The writers could have casted an actress to play Jada’s mother. What are the odds that her mother would be sick and not be able to go to Jada’s wedding? Since Jada’s mother has never been on the show, they could have casted her instead of making her miss the wedding. It’s bad enough her sister wasn’t making the wedding, but her mother wasn’t either. Both characters could have been casted so Jada could have someone from her family at the wedding.

Best Lines by Michele and Cheryl

(to Leo)
Javi: Who do you have to sleep with to get a drink around here?

(to Leo when he thought his dimples attracted him)
Javi: Creative guys are my weakness, but creative guys with dimples? Guardame.

Kristen: I’m too work up.
Brady: I know. Me too.
Kristen: I mean, especially after I talked to EJ.
Brady: Talked to—what are you, a glutton for punishment?
Kristen: No. I mean, he was actually kind of being great.
Brady: EJ?

Kristen: Yeah.
Brady: EJ DiMera? Great?
Kristen: Well, we do have our moments sometimes.

Leo: You just focus on planning an unforgettable bachelor party. Although now that I think about it, the ones people can actually remember are probably the best ones.
Javi: Well, a night of debauchery is my plausible deniability.
Leo: Don’t forget—more alcohol, the better. Words to live by.

Doug: This is supposed to be the time of your life that people write songs about.

Well, what can I say? I aim to please. You succeeded. [ Both laugh ] Have a seat. What’s with the good mood? Well, I am having breakfast with my beautiful wife. Why wouldn’t I be in a good mood? Well, I saw on the news that there was a holdup with the McConkey Esplanade. I know that’s a big project for you. That’s a big project for Aurora. It still is. But don’t you worry. I am steps ahead. You Tasered him? What, you just carry around a Taser with you?

In my line of work, it pays to be covered for all eventualities.

[sighs] Okay, so, if I’m understanding correctly, you took it upon yourself to–

Stop him from blabbing to the whole world about your latest criminal exploit? Yes. I did it out of loyalty to you, to this family… Especially now that you’re no longer in a position to make those charges– poof–vanish.

Thank you, Rita. Believe me, your loyalty is very much appreciated. I’m in your debt.

Yes, you are. And to secure my silence, I do hope that this will be reflected in my yearly bonus.

Of course.

And now I’m going to need you to tell me exactly what you’re up to.

[sighs]

Gabi.

In the flesh. Why did you think it was EJ?

Uh, well, ’cause he hired me…

Ah.

To, uh–to do some work for him, and then the son of a bitch stiffed me on the bill.

[scoffs]

Yeah. And, uh–and I told him, I said, hey, uh, EJ… [chuckles] I need this money so that I can pay the caterers today. And, uh, well, I thought he was coming, but it looks like he’s a deadbeat.

That tracks, the cheap bastard.

Yeah.

But, Rafe, if you needed money, you should have asked me.

Ah.

Come on, you’re my brother. And you know getting involved with EJ, it never leads anywhere good. That man is a slimy, malignant narcissist.

I know. I know. No, no, trust me–I hate the guy as much as you do. I mean, if he were drowning, I’d throw him a bowling ball.

Hmm.

But, um… yeah, you know, the money is green.

It doesn’t matter what color his money is if it stays in his pocket. Listen to me. EJ has the moral scruples of a tin-pot dictator.

Oh.

Any time I’ve ever done any kind of business with him, I get burned, badly. Promise me– promise me you’re not going to let that happen to you. [dramatic music]

Rita, I am beyond grateful for your loyalty–

Enough with the gratitude. Start talking.

Fine. Fine. I’ll tell you everything. But, first, do you mind giving me a hand here?

Oh, no, not with my back problems. I did the Tasering. You do the lifting.

[sighs] Fine. Not again.

If I’m being honest, I am somewhat surprised that Rafe would have me officiate today. I mean, it’s not as if he and I have exactly been BFFs as of late, since I relieved him of his official duties.

Well, maybe he’s trying to mend fences.

Oh, maybe. Ooh, it’s chilly out here. You know, if I was planning a January wedding… [scoffs] Everyone would fly their asses to Turks and Caicos.

Oh, that would be lovely.

Ooh, still, I know they’re going to have heaters around, but I doubt they can keep up with this cold. What do you think Javi would think if I put my puffer coat on over this dress?

If you ask me, I think the only opinions that matter today are the bride and groom’s.

Oh, definitely, and, you know, Jada and Rafe seem to be pretty low-key about all these things.

Mm.

I think all they care about today is that at the end of the ceremony, they will be married and be husband and wife. [soft music]

Okay.

Okay.

I’m ready. You’re ready. Let’s do this.

Wait. Before we go…

What’s that?

Talia wanted me to give this to you.

Oh.

She would have given it to you herself, of course, if she wasn’t already building homes in Ecuador.

My noble sis.

Mm-hmm.

Oh, wow. This is the necklace that Daddy got her when she was a little girl. She never took this off. She always wanted him close to her heart. Wow, I can’t believe she sent this to me.

She did.

Can I put it on for you?

Yes, please.

I’m just so sorry that your family couldn’t be here today.

Yeah, well, they are. They’re right here. And I have an adopted family– the Johnsons. Not to mention I am gaining a whole new family. Or should I say familia? [both chuckle] [sighs] Yeah. So… am I good?

Ah, you are more than good.

[gasps] One more thing.

What?

Mm-hmm. All right.

W-what is–

This is a sixpence for your shoe… for luck. Mm-hmm.

Not that you’ll need it. I have a hunch that you and Rafe are going to live happily ever after… no luck necessary.

[chuckles]

Oh, don’t worry, sis. I know how to handle EJ.

Yeah, I thought I knew how to handle him, too, but, um… Oh! I almost forgot.

Hmm. – Feliz cumpleaños to my big brother.

[chuckles] Wow. You brought me a present.

Actually, it’s not from me. It came to the house this morning– special delivery from Eli and Lani.

Oh, Eli and Lani, huh?

Yeah, it’s a little bubbly for your wedding night. Figured you’d want to chill it.

Ooh. Oh, thank you. Yeah, can never have too much bubbly, huh?

Oh, yeah, that’s for sure. So you ready to go? I, uh, thought we could drive together.

Come on, what, y-you don’t have, like, a hot date or something?

Well, I did. JJ was supposed to be my plus-one, but he got called into court at the last minute. He and Shawn have to testify for some major case. It’s one of Belle’s.

Oh, well, that’s too bad.

Yeah.

Well, you know, maybe, uh– maybe Jada will throw you the bouquet or something.

[laughs sarcastically] Maybe.

Yeah.

Rafe…

I just want to say that… from the bottom of my heart, I am so happy that you and Jada found each other.

Oh.

You’re such a great brother and a great guy, and you deserve all the happiness in the world. I love you so much.

Oh. Mm. [chuckles]

Uh, Rafe, you’re cutting off my air supply.

Oh, sorry. I-I…

[chuckles]

I just, um… I love you, too. Yeah. All right, so, uh, we should get going.

Yeah.

Yeah. Let’s do this. Right? [door opens]

Leo, seriously, what do you think I should do?

You’re asking for my advice?

Yeah, I am.

Wow, I’m flattered… also a little thrown off. People rarely ask for my input when it comes to moral decisions. But okay, uh, before you came to Salem, I was privy to a doozy of a secret. And I’m not talking about the kind of secret like, oh, somebody stole prescription drugs from the medicine cabinet at a gender-reveal party. This was a secretsecret. And it caused me so much guilt, so much angst, and if I had to do it over again, I would never.

So you’re saying I should tell Jada?

That’s what I’m saying, 100%. Although… I don’t know what it’s like to come from a loving family with siblings and cousins and a mother who would call a babysitter instead of giving you a Little League bat, saying, if you see the doorknob jiggling, run.

My God, Leo.

Oh, no, no, no, no, no. I’m not telling you any of that to make you feel bad for me. It’s just to say that if I had had that, I might feel a sense of affection and therefore obligation to the family member with the secret. I mean, you live with Rafe.

Yeah, I do.

And I would hate for him to shoot the messenger. I mean, he’s not going to actually shoot you, but he might yell at you a bunch, throw you out on the street, and then I would be happy to pick up the pieces. But on the other hand…

“On the other hand”? Leo, you’re not helping me at all!

Rita, could you help me with this knot, please?

God knows you were never a Boy Scout, Elvis Junior. I suppose that’s why the ex-commish escaped in the first place. [grunts] Constrictor knot– nearly impossible to slip. Take note in case you are planning a future hostage situation… which I fervently hope you are not.

Thank you, Rita– I knew I could count on you, even if Kristen is your current employer of record.

I’m loyal to all the DiMeras. Besides, you never know when the next palace coup might happen. Oh, you’re CEO, then she’s CEO, and on and on and on. I will note that it would have helped had you told me the entire story from the beginning.

It was on a need-to-know basis. I was protecting you.

Of course, you were. So, just to get some clarity– if right now Ms. Hunter is on her way to the altar with Rafe, I assume Mr. Feniger has something to do with this plan of yours?

You would assume correctly.

[chuckles] But I thought he was paid off ages ago– you know, when you and your father faked his death.

He was paid off, but he recently resurfaced. Apparently, his tiki bar in Argentina wasn’t doing so well.

[scoffs] If I recall correctly, the last time he stood in for Rafe Hernandez, the situation went very far south very quickly.

[sighs] Believe me, Rita, I had no intention for this particular history to repeat itself. But Rafe happened to stumble upon Arnold, and he foolishly blurted out everything, so I had no choice but to put Rafe on ice.

How long has he been down here?

Just a few weeks, but I only recently realized I could use the situation to my advantage.

Do I want to ask?

Well… I was ousted from my DA position by his fiancée.

Oh, and let me guess… you’re going to use this information to return the favor.

[elegant music playing]

Uh, who invited you?

[scoffs] Nice to see you, too, Mayor. Uh, and to answer your question, my boyfriend did. He convinced me I needed a day off.

“Boyfriend”?

That’s right. I would like you to meet Javier Hernandez. Javi, this is our… esteemed mayor, Paulina Price.

Oh, yeah, I already know Javi. We’ve met. Wedding planner extraordinaire.

It’s good to see you again, Mayor. I love the dress.

Why, thank you.

Oh, uh, sorry. And this is Steve and Kayla Johnson.

Actually, I met Javi at the bachelor party.

Right.

Well, I haven’t met you. Kayla Johnson. Pleasure to meet you.

Same here. Uh, would you excuse me? I have to, uh, check on the fireworks. [chuckles]

Fireworks? * *

Have you decided what to do?

No, I haven’t… not yet. * *

Well, that is, I suppose, a novel way to exploit this information, though will it allow you to accomplish your goals? That remains–

To be seen. I know. Listen, Rita, the clock is ticking, and I’ve already wasted valuable time dealing with this distraction. [Rafe groans] I’m sure he’ll have plenty of questions when he comes to. Do you mind keeping an eye on him while I attend to business?

I assume that question is rhetorical?

Thank you. I owe you one.

You owe me more than one. [dramatic music]

[elegant music playing] * *

Your window of opportunity to do something about this situation is dwindling rapidly.

Leo, I know. I just need a little more time to think, please.

Javi, this garden– it’s amazing. You really outdid yourself, primo.

Well, well, well… look who it is. My handsome cousin Javi. You know this day would not have been possible without you, right? Right? * *

Oh, baby, hello. You look beautiful.

Wow. Back at you, Mom. Oh.

Thank you, gorgeous.

Wow. Hi, Dad.

Hi, baby.

Hi.

Oh.

So tell us, how’s the bride?

Oh, she’s good. She obviously didn’t want Rafe to see her until she walks down the aisle.

Right. [chuckles]

And, Dad, it means the world to her that you’re stepping in for her dad today.

Well, it means the world to me that she asked. It’s a privilege.

Yeah. Well, I think we need to sit down.

Okay. * *

When Marcus and I were growing up in the orphanage… the only family we had was each other. So… when he made a family with your mom, your sister, and you… it was everything he ever dreamed of. And I want to tell you… he was so proud of you, Jada.

[sighs] I hope so.

Yeah. And I wish you all the happiness he had in his marriage… and all the happiness I have in mine. You know, when you find the right person… and you make a family with them… there’s nothing better in the whole world. [Wagner’s “Bridal March” playing] Okay. I think we’re on. * * Take good care of her, you hear?

Oh, I will. I will. * *

Dearly beloved… we are gathered here to join Rafael Alejandro Hernandez and Jada Louise Hunter in holy matrimony. The contract of marriage is a solemn one… not to be entered into lightly but thoughtfully and seriously… and with a deep realization of its obligation and commitments. Now, if anyone here… can show just cause as to why this couple should not be lawfully joined together… let him speak now or forever hold his peace.

I have something to say. [dramatic music]

What is going on here?

Leo, what the hell are you doing?

Well, remember when I said Rafe might shoot the messenger? Let me take the hit.

Leo, these– your interrupting behavior is becoming a bad habit! First at Jude’s christening, now at this wedding!

I know, but this is important.

Oh, for God’s sake.

Commissioner Hunter, I know we don’t really know each other. Well, there was the whole Dimitri fiasco, of course. But there is something I need to tell you.

Okay, what is it?

It’s nothing. Nothing.

Are you sure you don’t want me to–

Thank you for trying to protect me, but this is my secret to tell. Ladies and gentlemen, I have something to say. [dramatic music]

[weakly] You…

I thought you were going to help me.

Well, I didn’t, did I? Oh, and don’t waste your energy trying to slip out of those bonds again. It won’t work this time around.

I should have known. Just a… DiMera stooge… a pawn.

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It’d be a shame if you didn’t get any.

I should have known.

I should have known.

Everything’s in place, Feniger. The rest is up to you. Don’t screw this up. [exhales deeply]

Javi… my dear cousin, I am sure whatever wedding surprise you have in store, it can wait. [cell phone beeps] I swore I turned this damn thing off.

Oh… my God.

Rafe, what is it? Is everything okay?

Whatever it is that you have to say is gonna have to wait, because I’ve got something to say now.

Rafe, you’re scaring me. What is going on?

I’m sorry… but I can’t marry you.

Days of Our Lives Update

Update written by Joseph

Marlena sits at home until Leo shows up at her door. Leo says he knows he shouldn’t drop by unannounced but he brought scones. Marlena says that’s kind but she’s not really in the mood. Leo walks in anyway and asks what’s wrong. Marlena informs him that she had an argument with her daughter this morning, so Leo asks what it was about. Marlena explains that she went to bring Belle some coffee but she wasn’t alone. Leo tries to guess who she was with until Marlena lets it slip that it was EJ.

EJ brings a tray with a cupcake to Rafe in the secret room of the underground tunnels where Rafe is tied up. EJ sarcastically wishes Rafe a happy birthday and tells him he ha so many reasons to celebrate.

Gabi calls out to Jada that coffee is ready and asks who is ready to get married today. Jada gets up with a hangover and remarks that she feels like there’s no chance this wedding is going to happen.

Arnold is passed out on his bed in his room at the Salem Inn until he’s woken by Javi knocking at the door. Javi comes in wishing him a happy birthday and says he had a feeling “Rafe” would look like hell after how wild last night got. Javi brought him shrimp as his Grandma’s hangover cure. Arnold informs him that he already ordered room service and questions why he’s here so early anyway. Javi reminds him that he’s here to help him get ready for his wedding. Arnold thanks him but says he’s got it covered and suggests he go help Jada get ready because she will need more help. Before he can get Javi out of the room, the stripper from the bachelor party comes out of the bathroom in a towel, asking if breakfast is ready. She then stops and says she didn’t know he had company. Javi says neither did he.

Marlena tells Leo that she can’t believe she blurted it out. Leo assures he won’t repeat a word to anyone and he’s honored that she confided in him. Marlena admits that she doesn’t have anyone to confide in with John gone and she can’t with Belle. Marlena brings up what this will do to Belle and Sami’s relationship as well as Shawn since he showed up while all that was going on and then EJ walked out, making it pretty clear to Shawn that Belle and EJ had spent the night together. Marlena and Leo agree that was awkward. Marlena can’t believe she’s talking about this to a gossip columnist. Leo says he’s a former columnist and all of this has been on Body and Soul. Marlena says this is real life and she can’t believe she’s been so indiscreet as this is the type of thing she’d only tell to a really close and trusted friend. Leo believes Marlena confided in him because she thinks of him as a really close, trusted friend.

EJ puts a little birthday hat on Rafe and says now they are appropriately festive as he lights a candle on his cupcake and tells Rafe to make a wish. Rafe responds that he wishes EJ were dead. EJ says he said it out loud so now it won’t come true. EJ adds that he’s in a good mood so he won’t take that personally. Rafe remarks that knowing EJ, the cupcake is poisoned. EJ says then he wouldn’t be able to see the look on his face when he tells him the good news that today is also Rafe’s wedding day.

Jada complains to Gabi that her head is pounding. Jada worries that she’s supposed to get ready in four hours and she can’t even think straight. Gabi encourages that she just needs caffeine but Jada doesn’t think she has a chance. Gabi assures that she has her back as starting today, they are family. Gabi promises that Jada will walk down the aisle or else Javi would kill her because he’s so invested in planning the wedding. Jada asks where Javi is. Gabi explains that she told him that she and Stephanie had everything under control and that Stephanie will be there soon. Gabi adds that Javi has a much more difficult task ahead of him as he is helping “Rafe” get ready. Gabi remarks that Rafe is the only one who partied harder than Jada did last night.

Arnold tells the stripper that Javi was just leaving. She remembers Javi from the party last night. Javi questions what she is doing in “Rafe’s” room in just a towel. She goes back to the bathroom to get changed. Arnold tells Javi that it’s not what it looks like and that he can explain.

Leo declares he and Marlena to be best friends. Marlena reminds him that he’s still her patient. Leo argues that he hasn’t had a real appointment in ages. Leo tells Marlena that he came here because something wonderful happened and he wanted it to share it with her, so Marlena asks what happened. Leo reveals that he and Javi got back together.

Javi tells “Rafe” that he can’t believe him. Arnold repeats that he can explain, claiming he forgot his scarf at the bachelor party and that Savannah was kind enough to bring it to him and she had been drinking, so he didn’t think she should drive and decided it was best if she spent the night here. Javi questions where exactly she spent the night.

EJ reminds Rafe that he and Jada planned on getting married today. Rafe says that was before he saw EJ with Arnold which EJ calls the beginning of Rafe’s stay here. EJ then reveals to Rafe that Jada went along with their plans, so she is getting married today.

Jada admits to Gabi that she was surprised at how much “Rafe” was enjoying his bachelor party. Gabi guesses everyone gets a little wild the night before their wedding. Stephanie then arrives and says she brought Hollywood level cosmetics from the Body and Soul studio. Jada continues to complain about how she feels. Stephanie says she will take her look to the next level. Gabi says she will see them at the church as she has something to take care of first, but promises that she’ll be back in time to see Jada and “Rafe” get married.

Rafe tells EJ that he’s out of his mind as Jada would be chasing down every lead looking for him. EJ explains that Jada isn’t looking for him because she doesn’t think he’s missing which means she’s had plenty of time to plan her wedding to Arnold.

Arnold tells Javi that Savannah slept in the bed while he slept on the floor. She backs him up and says “Rafe” was a perfect gentleman. Javi doesn’t believe a word and tells them to just admit that they slept together.

Gabi goes to the Horton house where JJ answers the door without a shirt on and asks to what he owes the pleasure. Gabi responds that the pleasure is all hers.

Jada tells Stephanie that she feels a little more human after her third cup of coffee. Stephanie asks if she has any butterflies. Jada insists that she’s not nervous, reminding her that she has done this before which brings up Everett/Bobby. Jada says the silver lining from that is that it brought her and Stephanie closer together. Jada tells Stephanie that having her as her maid of honor feels so right. They say they love each other as they hug.

Rafe calls EJ a sick bastard and vows to make him pay for this. EJ says to blame Jada as this all could have been avoided if she hadn’t conspired with Paulina to have him fired. EJ warns against messing with a DiMera. Rafe questions this being his revenge and asks what he thinks is going to happen on their wedding night. EJ assures him that Arnold is not sleeping with anyone today.

Arnold tells Javi that he and Savannah had sex and questions why he’s making such a big deal out of it. Javi reminds “Rafe” that he’s getting married to Jada in four hours and that he proposed to her with his mother’s ring and now he’s making a mockery of that by sleeping with the stripper. Savannah corrects him that she’s an exotic dancer and points out that she didn’t cheat on anyone. She decides that if there’s no breakfast, she will just leave and spare herself the judgement as she storms out. Javi asks how he could do this to Jada. Arnold tells Javi to get over it because he’s not going to breathe a word of this to anyone.

Leo explains to Marlena how he exposed Kerry as Lady Whistleblower, so Javi threw him out of the house and then he and Javi kissed and it was everything. Leo adds that he spent the night and they had lots of sex. Marlena questions if he’s sure that was a good idea. Leo remarks that sex is always a good idea. Marlena reminds Leo that the last time they behaved so hastily, it ended badly for both of them. Leo says that was because he accused Javi of spying on him. Marlena advises Leo that he can’t go in to a relationship on a faulty foundation. Leo asks if she’s saying his relationship is doomed.

JJ tells Gabi that she looks amazing. Gabi says he does too and thanks him. JJ asks where she is off to. Gabi reminds him that it’s Rafe’s wedding. JJ says he’s happy to see her but asks what she’s doing here since she must be busy. Gabi says she has been helping Jada get ready and putting out fires all morning, so she’s exhausted but there’s one detail she forgot to take care of which she hopes JJ can help her rectify. Gabi then tells JJ that she hoped he would be her plus one to the wedding.

Stephanie asks if Jada is feeling up for this. Jada assures that she’s feeling much better. Stephanie says after everything she and Rafe have been through, she must be so happy to be getting married. Jada calls it amazing but Stephanie asks what’s wrong. Jada claims she’s fine but Stephanie says she can’t fool her and asks her to talk to her. Jada brings up that she hasn’t heard from Rafe and she thought she’d at least get a call from him before they walk down the aisle.

EJ reminds Rafe that he gave his word that Arnold would not lay a hand on Jada. Rafe reminds EJ of what Arnold did to Sami and asks how the hell he could let this happen. EJ assures that would never happen again. Rafe asks if he doesn’t think Jada is going to want to be with her husband on her wedding day. Rafe tells EJ that he needs to stop this. EJ tells him to calm down and that he has it all set up that before Jada and “Rafe” get married, the whole city of Salem will get the shocking news that Jada is a corrupt cop.

Stephanie tells Jada that she thought it was adorable that “Rafe” wanted to spend the night somewhere else. Jada says she did too but thought she would at least get a text goodnight and feels like she’s being ghosted. Stephanie points out that the phone works both ways and she didn’t call him. Stephanie adds that it’s still early and bets Javi is putting him through the wringer. Jada says it’s not just about some silly text or call, but something has been really off about “Rafe” lately.

Javi questions “Rafe” wanting him to keep quiet about the fact that he cheated on Jada. Arnold argues that they aren’t married and it’s not Javi’s secret to tell. Javi asks how he could hurt Jada like that. Arnold says he didn’t hurt her because she doesn’t know about. Arnold asks if Javi is going to tell Jada and ruin their big day. Javi complains that most bachelor parties don’t end up with the groom having sex with the stripper. Arnold argues that Javi said he’d never been to a bachelor party. Arnold says it’s not unusual while Javi says this just doesn’t seem like Rafe. Arnold warns Javi again not to breathe a word about this.

Marlena tells Leo that she never said his relationship was doomed. Leo thought she’d be more encouraging since he and Javi finally put Lady Whistleblower behind them, so it just felt right and asks why they would wait after being apart for so long. Leo thinks Marlena is projecting as she’s thinking about walking in on Belle and EJ while he’s talking about he and Javi. Marlena admits that he’s right as she was concerned that Leo might get hurt and she doesn’t want that to happen because she cares so much about him, just like a best friend as Leo hugs her.

Gabi tells JJ that she was going to ask him earlier but she lost her nerve. Gabi notes they haven’t been seeing each other very long but she knows being her date to a family wedding is a big deal, so she was worried that he might think she was rushing things. JJ admits he was wondering if she was going to ask and what it would mean. Gabi suggests they could disregard any meaning it might have and treat it like just a party. Gabi says maybe it’s just as simple as they like each other, so it would be really fun to go together. Gabi asks if JJ wants to be her date.

Javi tells Arnold that he hates this. Arnold says family looks out for each other. Javi argues that Jada is his family now too and tells Arnold that he can get ready without him. Javi reluctantly agrees not to say anything as he storms out of the room.

Stephanie asks Jada what she means by saying something is off with “Rafe”. Jada says he’s just been different for awhile now and brings up how he was getting handsy with the dancer last night which was so not him. Stephanie admits she didn’t love that either. Jada adds that “Rafe” hired EJ as a client when he hates him like poison, so she questions why he’d work with him. Stephanie encourages the idea of “Rafe” wanting some extra cash for the wedding. Jada argues that Black Patch is not short on funds and he didn’t tell her or Steve. Jada adds that EJ practically lost his job because of her but he’s totally fine with hiring her fiancée. Jada feels something about this doesn’t add up.

EJ explains to Rafe that Jada will lose her job, allowing Paulina to re-appoint “Rafe” and Arnold will then convince Paulina to rehire him. EJ states that “Rafe” and he will have a job while Jada will be the only one out on the street. Rafe says the problem with his plan is that Jada isn’t a dirty cop. EJ points out that Rafe isn’t either but Ava managed to do a number on his reputation. EJ admits he’s not Ava’s biggest fan but calls it a good idea. EJ declares that when all is said and done, Jada will be toxic. Rafe argues that he won’t get away with this. EJ feels he already has. EJ tries to feed Rafe his cupcake but Rafe suddenly breaks free from being tied up and charges EJ.

JJ agrees with Gabi that they haven’t been seeing each other very long and it is kind of a big deal for him to go with her to her brother’s wedding. Gabi starts to give up on it but JJ says he didn’t say no and he likes that it’s kind of a big deal as he wants to go with her. Gabi says she wants him to as well as they kiss until they are interrupted by JJ getting a call from Belle. JJ says he’s off today but says he can be there in an hour. Gabi guesses JJ won’t be her plus one after all. JJ informs her that they are prosecuting a perp that he arrested awhile back and the trial got moved up, so he has to be there as Belle needs he and Shawn to testify. JJ apologizes while Gabi understands that she sprung this on him out of nowhere. JJ says he’d much rather be spending the day with her than doing anything else. Gabi realizes that justice never takes a day off. Gabi says she has to go and that she’ll save him a piece of cake. JJ says even though he can’t go, he knows that even being asked was a big step and he likes that for them. Gabi says she does too as they kiss.

Javi runs in to Leo in the town square. Leo says he was just telling Marlena how happy they are. Javi says no and that he’s mad at Leo because he ruined Jada and Rafe’s wedding.

Stephanie tells Jada that she doesn’t blame her for overthinking things since the last time she was married, she got blindsided by the groom’s personality change so she would be a little sensitive to “Rafe” cutting loose. Jada then gets a call from “Rafe”. Arnold says he just wanted one last call with his gorgeous fiancée before she becomes his wife.

Rafe knocks out EJ and declares there’s not going to be a wedding.
