Sam: No, she said it was all very top secret.

Willow: Hey, Sonny, um… thank you for the flowers you sent. That was really thoughtful.

Sonny: How are you holding up?

Willow: It’s been…difficult, but Michael and Wiley are getting me through it.

Sonny: If you need anything, you know I’m always here for you.

Michael: Willow will never need anything from you.

Anna: There’s nothing to talk about.

Felicia: Oh, no?

Anna: No.

Felicia: New Year’s Eve, The Savoy, you, Valentin with your hands and your lips all over each other?

Anna: You weren’t even there.

Felicia: Yeah, other people were, and I heard all about it. But since then, there’s been no action, so to speak.

Anna: Well, there was plenty of action, which resulted in him having to recuperate out of town. I mean, Valentin’s only been back a couple of weeks.

Felicia: He’s back? Why am I just learning about this now?

Anna: Because, like I said, there’s nothing to tell. Well, he came to my house and we talked. And he kissed me. And I haven’t seen him since. [ Chuckles ]

Valentin: Hello.

Anna: [ Chuckles ]

Willow: I was just thanking Sonny for the flowers.

Dante: You, uh, here to see Avery?

Sonny: Yeah, I’m here to see Avery’s dance performance, and then we’re going to have a little lunch.

Dante: Nice. Yeah. Leo’s reciting a poem.

Sonny: I guess we got a family full of performers today, huh?

Willow: Come on, Michael. Let’s go find seats.

Dante: [ Sighs ] You gonna stick around?

Esmé: I’ve arranged for us to have a picnic by the water and ride horses through the grounds. Doesn’t that sound romantic? And I know you had your own special surprise for us, but — and I’m not trying to step on that, but I just thought this could be a little, uh…foreplay. You know, you, me, alone, no interruptions.

Nikolas: Except for mine. Sorry.

Esmé: Oh, don’t apologize. Spence and I were just heading out for the afternoon.

Spencer: It’s really sweet that you went to all the trouble, Esmé, but I can’t go anywhere with you.

Trina: The Title IX report from PCU. A one-stop shop for all the findings into the investigation into Joss and Cam’s sex tape.

Ava:  So this is what the school will use to determine whether you’re guilty or not?

Trina: I have 10 days to review it, and then they’ll make their decision. And if they decide that I’m responsible, I’ll most likely be expelled.

Ava: Well, no, no, no. I mean, they would reverse that when you’re found not guilty in court.

Trina: If I’m found not guilty.

Ava: You will be.

Trina: And no, actually, the court verdict has no bearing on the university’s investigation.

Ava: Well, that’s ludicrous.

Trina: Those are the rules. And PCU can still kick me out of the school, which is the least of my problems if I’m sent to prison.

Ava: Trina.

Trina: What am I gonna do?

Curtis: Why are you here? I thought you’d be working.

Portia: Well, I wanted to take Trina to lunch, to hopefully take her mind off of everything. So I just needed to come home to change. And I’m late, so…

Curtis: Oh, go, go, go, go. Okay. But wait, wait, whoa.

Portia: What are you doing here? Is — is everything okay?

Curtis: I’m sure we’ll soon find out.

Portia: Okay. I’m gonna let you go ahead and be mysterious right now, but just please — you’ll explain everything later, right?

Curtis: Everything.

Portia: Okay.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Chase: Leo, no matter what happens, we are all so proud of you. Okay? And you’ve been practicing your trick, right? When you recite your poem, you are performing just for me.

Brook Lynn: And, you know, I get stage fright a lot, too, but it just goes away when I start singing.

Leo: I’m not singing.

Brook Lynn: You’re up.

Chase: Okay. How’s this? I will make you a deal. If you recite your poem today, later, at your birthday party, you can pick any song and I’ll sing it in front of everybody.

Leo: Any song?

Chase: Yep.

Leo: Even “Fly Me to the Moon”?

Chase: [ Chuckles ] What do you know about Frank Sinatra?

Leo: Well, Mom sings it to me all the time.

Chase: Okay, well, I’ll sing anything you want, but you have to do your part. Deal?

Leo: Deal.

Sonny: I’m not gonna let Michael chase me out of here. Olivia’s my friend, your mother. I’m — I’m here to support Leo.

Dante: He’s — he’s still pretty angry.

Sonny: Yeah, I know he is. I noticed.

Dante: [ Sighs ] I’m trying to get him to talk to you. It hasn’t worked so far, but I’m thinking — I don’t know, maybe you got to be the one to make the first move.

Sonny: Dante, what happens next is up to Michael. Your brother said some pretty tough things that he can’t take back. If he wants to apologize, he comes to me. Then we’re gonna work it out.

Dante: I agree with you, if things were kind of cooling off a little bit, but they’re not, and I’m — I’m worried that in the meantime, more damage can be done.

Sam: Hey. Hey. Let’s find our seats.

Sonny:  Yeah. You guys go ahead. I’ll see you after.

Dante: Alright.

Willow: I swear, Michael, Sonny was just offering his condolences about my — about Harmony.

Michael: The flowers were sent to you, so I didn’t say anything, but my father’s barely noticed any of us since he’s gotten back from Nixon Falls. And all of a sudden, now he’s showing his concern?

Willow: You don’t think it was sincere?

Michael: I think he feels badly for you, but I also think he’s trying to get one over on me.

Willow: Do you want to leave?

Michael: No, no, I’m — I’m with my family. Unlike my father, who threw his away.

Felicia: Hello, Valentin.

Valentin: Hello, Felicia. I was on my way to my room, and I thought I would stop by and say hello.

Anna:  Hello.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Valentin: Sorry I haven’t been in touch.

Anna: Oh, no need to explain. Excuse me. I have to take this. Anna Devane.

Felicia: Join me?

Valentin: I would love to. So, how have you been?

Felicia: Great. Except I heard that you kissed my friend and then ghosted her.

Valentin: I believe I’ve apologized.

Felicia: Oh, you can do better than that. Going off the radar whenever you and Anna get close? [ Clicks tongue ] Unacceptable.

Valentin: Is that how it looks?

Felicia: That’s how it is. So tell me, Valentin, how serious are you about Anna?

Ava: Well, at least Josslyn and Cam both went on record saying they know you didn’t do it. I mean, that’s got to be helpful, right?

Trina: It still doesn’t look good. The burden of proof is lower in these cases.

Ava: Trina, try to think positive. You know, pessimism will get you nowhere.

Trina: I call it realism.

Ava: Nobody has found you responsible. Right? And they may not. I mean, there’s every chance in the world that this coordinator person will see what your friends, your family, and countless others see — that you are innocent.

Trina: Thank you. But you all know me. To the Title IX coordinator, I’m just another random troublemaker.

Spencer: I have to go into Kelly’s.

Esmé: And I love that you’re so dedicated to your job, but it’s your day off.

Spencer: Well, Cam texted, and one of the other servers called in sick, so he needs me to cover.

Esmé: Oh, there are plenty of other people who can cover for you, aren’t there? I mean, come on, Spence. You’ve been working so hard lately, both at Kelly’s and at the gallery. You deserve to take a day to yourself. You know, spend time with loved ones.

Spencer: I’m sorry. I really need to go.

Nikolas:  Esmé…

Curtis: Thank you for coming.

Stella: Did you think I wouldn’t?  This is obviously more than a social visit.

Curtis: Why obviously?

Stella: I could tell by your voice when you called. So what can I do for you?

Curtis: I’m sure this, uh — this won’t be the easiest thing to hear.

Stella: I notice Marshall hasn’t been around lately. Does this have something to do with him?

Curtis: Marshall left town. He’s not coming back.

Stella: Why did he leave?

Curtis: We had an argument. He wasn’t being honest with me.

Stella: [ Sighs ] I really thought your father would open up more the more you got to know him.

Curtis: I thought he would open up more the more he got to know us. I’m not talking about what — what he held back on. I’m talking about the lies. The lies — letting us believe that he was in witness protection all those years or that he suddenly went underground because he got on the wrong side of the wrong people or that he had no choice but to abandon his family. But see, now I finally know that wasn’t the case.

Stella: Curtis, how do you know all this?

Principal Adair: Excuse me, everyone. I am so glad you could join us for what promises to be a wonderful showcase of our students’ many talents.

Sam:  You and Sonny looked pretty intense. Everything okay?

Dante:  Yeah, not really.

Drew:  This seat taken?

Ned:  It’s all yours.

Drew: Ah, thanks, thanks. You both must be so proud of Leo.

Olivia: We — we are. We truly are.

Drew: It’s really nice, I got to say, that family can come together and celebrate like this.

Olivia: Yeah.

Ned:  In the spirit of family, I’d like to sit down with you and Michael and have a more in-depth discussion about ELQ’s future.

Olivia: Are you really talking business right now?

Drew: Absolutely. Michael and I have been talking, and we’ve got a proposition for you.

Ned: I look forward to hearing it.

Principal Adair: And for our first performance, please welcome to the stage Leo Quartermaine…

Olivia: He’s up, he’s up.

Principal Adair: …Who will be reciting “The Only Me” by Pat Mora.

[ Applause ]

Esmé: All I wanted was for us to get back to where we were, but that’s impossible when Spence keeps throwing up these walls. And I-I suppose I should just accept it. Right? He’s no longer into me. Move on. But… oh, god, the thought of giving up on him? I know Spence and I don’t always agree. What couple does? But I never imagined that those differences would be what drove him away. We were a team. And then one little argument, and poof. It’s all gone. Do you know what that’s like?

Nikolas: [ Chuckles lightly ] Yeah. I do.

Trina: I am so ready for the day I do not have to think about Esmé Prince ever again. All the damage she’s done to me, Joss, Cam, you?

Ava: Yeah, well, Esmé’s transgressions against me are very well known. And in the past, apparently. Or so I’ve been assured.

Trina: So things are better with you and Nikolas?

Ava: No. But it has nothing to do with Esmé. No, it doesn’t. Nikolas and I are grown-ups. If it doesn’t work out, that’s on us. Trina, your loyalty means so much to me. And you know you always have mine.

Trina: I know.

Ava: But dealing with Nikolas and Esmé is my job. Yours is to focus on yourself. Keep your chin up, okay?

Trina: Okay.

Spencer: Dr. Robinson.

Portia: [ Scoffs ] Of course you’re working today.

Spencer: How’s Trina?

Portia: Excuse me? No, no, Trina’s none of your business. My daughter — off limits to you.

Stella: You accessed Marshall’s arrest record? How did you manage that? Forget I asked. But why?

Curtis: What do you mean why?

Stella: I thought you were done snooping in your father’s past.

Curtis: I was, but he kept hinting about danger, and I was not gonna let any harm happen to you or anybody else in my family.

Stella: [ Sighs ]

Curtis: So I needed to know the rest of the story.

Stella: I wish it hadn’t come to that.

Curtis: Me, too. As it turns out, Marshall didn’t run afoul of the mob. He got arrested in a protest that got out of control. He wasn’t tried. He didn’t go to jail. Instead, he was remanded to a mental institution. When I talked to Marshall about it, he shut down and refused to talk about that part of his life. You know, the night you had your panic attack, I noticed you and Marshall had your heads together. And it does not escape me that you didn’t ask what I learned and you don’t at all seem surprised about it. You know more about what happened to Marshall than you’re letting on.

Stella: Yes. Yes.

Curtis: Why did you lie to me about it?

Leo: “Spinning through space for eons, our earth — oceans, rivers, mountains, glaciers, tigers, parrots, redwoods — evolving wonders. And our vast array, generations of humans — all shapes, colors, languages. Can I be the only me? Our earth: So much beauty, hate, goodness, greed. ‘Study. Cool the climate,’ advises my teacher. ‘Grow peace.’ Can I be the only me, become all my unique complexity?

[ Chase clapping ]

Valentin: I’m very fond of Anna.

Felicia: Well, you better prove it or move on because Anna is the best of the best. And if you hurt her…

Valentin: I’ll have to answer to you?

Felicia: Bingo.

Anna: Guess who that was.

Who?

Anna: Agent Beeman from Tahiti.

Felicia: The one that arrested Jennifer smith.

Valentin: Jennifer smith?

Anna: Yeah. The bureau took her into custody not only for stealing the Ice Princess, but also for causing the cable car accident that killed Luke. Apparently, they have solid evidence, and Beeman says that she’s gonna spend the rest of her life in Steinmauer.

Felicia: Did you tell him that you don’t think she’s guilty?

Valentin: Why do you think she’s not guilty?

Anna: Because there’s a missing piece.

Felicia: French naval captain.

Valentin: [ French accent ] This chair, is it taken?

Jennifer claims that she was with this captain in Tahiti, and the WSB, they haven’t had any luck in finding him.

Valentin: I think I might be able to help.

Esmé: Spence doesn’t trust me because I followed him into his vendetta against Ava. Meanwhile, I only did those things because I was so devoted to him. Does that make me sound weak, that I just blindly did whatever he wanted?

Nikolas: It sounds like love.

Esmé: Now it’s the very thing tearing us apart.

Nikolas: You know, trust is a tricky thing. And believe me, I know that better than anyone.

Esmé: Oh, my god. I am so sorry.

Nikolas: Why?

Esmé: Here I am going on about my problems when yours with Ava are so much more significant. I-I didn’t mean to dredge up a painful subject for you. I-I wasn’t thinking.

Nikolas: That doesn’t sound like you.

Spencer: I am very sorry for what Trina and your family are going through. I hope that this is all over soon.

Portia: This will never be over for Trina. Her name for the rest of eternity will be attached to this horrible act. Not to mention an arrest record that’s gonna follow her around forever. And, oh, yeah, she’s about to get kicked out of school, too. And that’s the lesser of two evils, considering the other option is prison time.

Spencer:I know how hard this is for you.

Portia: You have no idea. I mean, look at you. You were actually guilty. And your family bought you a slap on the wrist.

Spencer:I did go to prison.

Portia: Oh, please, don’t even. No. Minimum security prison for 30 days. Don’t even start with me. But now you’re back. You’re here. You got your trust fund, you got your island, and you got your family name, which apparently gets you out of anything. Trina doesn’t have that. Do you understand this? This is ruining her life. Do you get it? It’s all because of you. It’s because of you and your awful girlfriend.

Ava: So do you think we should — we should order or will your mom be here soon?

Trina: Mm, I haven’t heard from her. Maybe she got caught up at work.

Portia: You’re like this human wrecking ball in Trina’s life.

Ava: Not at work.

Portia: [ Speaking indistinctly ] And you want to know what? Trina vouched for you time and time and time again. And what did it get her? Nothing! Oh, wait, wait. No, no, no. It did get her something. Heartache, misery, a tainted future. Lucky her.

Ava: You. Inside.

Trina: What did you say to him?

Curtis: So all those times… all those times you said, “Let it go, Curtis. Wait for Marshall to come to you,” you knew that he abandoned his family for no reason?

Stella: I’m so sorry, Curtis.

Curtis: That’s it? You’re “sorry, Curtis”? How long have you known?

Stella: Well, I mean, if you’re asking me if I knew, if I was in on this from the beginning, the answer is no. I didn’t find out until Marshall had already gone.

Curtis: So when Mom got sick and you came to help us?

Stella: Yes. I knew.

Curtis: You, Aunt Stella, the pillar of honesty, you’ve been lying to me my whole life. You lied to Tommy his whole life. You watched us cry and grieve over a man who’s still alive.

Stella: It hurts something fierce, Curtis. Knowing th– seeing you and Tommy grow up without a father, knowing how much you needed him, how much you — you missed him. I hated every second of it. Then when you told me how you and Tommy stopped asking about Marshall because you saw how it affected us, that broke my heart and I wanted to confess right then.

Curtis: Then why didn’t you?

Stella: Because the man came back wanting a relationship with you. And once I saw you warming to a relationship with him, I didn’t want to get in the way of that.

Curtis: My f– this is unreal.

Stella: Baby, listen, if there — if there’s anything else, any other questions that you have for me now, I will do my best to answer them.

Curtis: I’m sorry, Aunt Stella. It might be too late. I don’t know how I’m meant to believe anything you say.

Valentin: Why don’t you let me take you to dinner? We can discuss the case or not. What are you doing tomorrow night?

Anna: I have plans.

Valentin: Well, cancel them.

Anna: I can’t cancel them.

Valentin: Well, then I’ll come over after. Do you still have the Pauillac blend of Bordeaux?

Felicia: Oh, we drank that at our last get-together, didn’t we?

Anna: Yeah. I told you it wouldn’t last.

Valentin: Hope you let it breathe.

Anna: Didn’t need it.

Valentin: Well, then, if not tomorrow night, the night after or any night you choose, I’ll bring something posh and even more expensive.

Anna: I’ll tell you what. I’ll check my dance card and let you know.

Valentin: By all means.

Esmé: I know I seem confident, but… before I met Spence, I was a mess. Mourning the loss of my parents all alone, no friends to speak of.

Nikolas: Must have been difficult.

Esmé: It was awful. And I know this may sound disingenuous, confiding my problems with my boyfriend to his father, but… that’s not all you are to me. You’re also the man who rescued me from Sonny, the man who took me in when no one else would, even though it cost him. You know, you and Spencer being here just brought some things to the surface, that’s all. I don’t see how Ava doesn’t get it.

Nikolas: Get what?

Esmé: That the one thing you care about most is doing what’s best for your family.

Nikolas: Doesn’t mean I’m always successful.

Esmé: And of course you’ve made mistakes. Everyone does. But your intentions, y-y– you care about your family and would do anything for them. I mean, honestly, who could ask for more?

Portia:  I couldn’t hold it in anymore. I mean, he’s so spoiled and entitled, and it’s —

Trina:  Mom.

Portia:  [ Sighs ] He deserved it. He deserved every word and more.

Trina:  Well, I mean, he’s heard it all coming from me. Might as well hear it from you, too.

Portia:  You’re not mad at me, are you?

Trina:  What? I’m grateful. Thank you for having my back.

Portia:  Oh, god, always, baby girl. Always.

Trina:  I mean, why was Spencer even here? Cam told me today was his day off. Otherwise, I would have picked a different restaurant.

Portia:  It’s fine. It doesn’t matter. I just hope it doesn’t ruin our time, our lunch.

Trina:  It was already ruined. I got the Title IX report.

Portia:  Oh, my god. What did it say?

Ava: Portia and I are trying to keep Trina’s mind off the hell that you and Esmé have inflicted on her. You being here certainly doesn’t help.

Spencer: I picked up an extra shift.

Ava: Well, unpick it up.

Spencer: This isn’t the gallery, Ava. You have no authority over me here, so leave me the hell alone.

Olivia:  I am so, so proud of you. Do you know that?

Dante: Buddy, you were incredible, man.

Sam:  Yeah, it was really, really great.

Willow: Yeah. “The only me” is one of my favorites.

Leo: It is?

Willow: I used to read to my students all the time for inspiration.

Leo:  Cool.

Chase: You were amazing, dude. [ Laughs ] Oh!

Leo: I used your trick.

Brook Lynn: And it did the trick.  You were so good. Aww.

Sonny: Hey, buddy. You know how hard it is to get on the stage and do that? [ Laughs ]

Brook Lynn: You excited for your birthday party?

Olivia:  Okay, and that’s my cue. We’re gonna see you at the hotel, right?

Dante: We’re right behind you.

Olivia:  Okay. Leo, wait up!

Brook Lynn: We should probably go.

Sam: Find me when you’re ready to leave.

Dante: Yeah, of course.

Sonny: So when you said that the damage is already done, you know, while I’ll be waiting for an apology, what — what did you mean by that? Like, is — is Michael planning something?

Michael: We’ll have a more formal conversation about this later, but we wanted to fill you in ASAP. We’ve been looking at the corporate structure of the merger, and we can offer you COO.

Ned: Chief Operating Officer is an administrative position. More about nuts and bolts, not long-term vision.

Drew: You’ll be perfect for this, Ned. With your expertise, you’re gonna be able to seamlessly implement the wide scope of the changes.

Ned: And my lack of media experience?

Michael: Well, we might — we might bring in someone, if needed, to focus more on that side.

Ned: Ha! So I wouldn’t even be the only COO.

Drew: To be determined. ‘Look, if that happens, we’ll make sure that that position is lower than yours.

Michael: So what do you think?

Ned: I think… you’ve given me a lot to consider. I’ll see you at the Metro Court.

Drew: That went well.

Stella: Baby, I love you more than anything in this world. And I am so deeply sorry for causing you this pain. That was never what I wanted. Please tell me you believe that. In the time that I spent with Marshall since he’s come back, I’ve seen how much he loves you. After 40 years, baby. All that time, all that life. It would be so easy for him to just stay away, but he couldn’t. I know what you’re thinking, honey. I know what you’re thinking. “If he loved me so much, then why did he leave me in the first place?” But right or wrong, Marshall truly believed he was giving you what you needed.

Curtis: How? How, Aunt Stella? How could being away from us be what we needed? He left his wife. He left his two — or did he? Aunt Stella… …did Mom know?

Stella: It was Marshall’s decision to let you and Tommy think he was dead, but… your mother agreed to it.

Curtis: [ Sighs ]

Stella:God, I hated keeping that secret. I hated it! But your parents thought that they were doing what was best, and I had to respect that. If I could go back, baby, if I could have told you sooner… I would’ve spared you this hurt. [ Sobbing ] Oh, god, I’m so sorry. Oh, god.

Curtis: Aunt Stella.

Curtis: I love you, Aunt Stella. That’s never gonna change. But… I just don’t understand why. There was no jail time. There were no ties to the mob. Hell, I don’t even know how long he was in the mental institution. So why the decision to pretend to be dead?

Stella: That part? That’s not my story to tell. That’s your father’s.

Curtis: Then I need to find him.

Dante: I think the best course of action is to talk to Michael before things escalate.

Sonny: Is that code for “watch your back”?

Dante: It’s a heads-up. Take care of yourself, okay, Dad?

Sonny: Yeah.

Leo: Wow! My kid party was cool, but this party is even cooler.

Ned and Olivia: [ Both laugh ]

Ned: Because you are a cool kid, Leo.

Leo: Where did all the balloons come from?

Ned: Well, you can thank your mom. She made it all happen.

Leo: Thanks, mom!

Olivia: [ Laughs ] Oh, you’re welcome. I love you, honey. Happy birthday.

Leo: I want to see the balloons.

Olivia: Go for it.

Ned:  [ Chuckles ]

Ned: I, um… I should probably take this before the singing starts. Is it alright if I step out for just a minute?

Olivia: Do your thing. Sure.

Ned: Okay. I won’t be long.

Brook Lynn: You realize it’s almost time for you to face the music. Literally, unless you plan to not hold up your end of the bargain.

Chase: Are you kidding me? Leo brought it today.

Brook Lynn: Oh, big time. Thank you so much for being so supportive of my brother.

Chase: Oh, he’s a good kid.

Brook Lynn: Yeah, well, you’re pretty great, too.

Michael: Ned was a little noncommittal about the COO offer.

Drew: You think?

Michael: Yeah. But no one cares more about ELQ than Ned does, and I’m sure when push comes to shove, he’ll do — he’ll do what’s right for the company.

Ned: You wanted to meet? Here I am.

Ava: Spencer, stay away from Trina or I will make sure you regret it.

Spencer: I am not the enemy here.

For a more appropriate time?

[ Chuckles ] When will that be? Come on. Is it about me and cam? Is it esmé? Trina’s trial? Or something simple like final exams? I was just going to ask about the pcu report and if trina was allowed back in school. Oh, well, yeah. There’s no official word on that yet. We’re just trying to stay as distracted as possible while we wait. Given that list you just rattled off, it seems like you have tons to distract you. Well, same with you. The hearing for nina’s petition is tomorrow. Yeah. Looks like we both have our hands full, huh? I’m not worried about michael. You know, he’s in strategic mode and has his game face on and can handle anything right now. But… I can’t help but feel sorry for willow. I mean, I can’t imagine how hard this must be, especially after you told her the truth about her mother. So what do you think about the feature? Smoltz did his job and more. Look, I know you had your reservations, but with the hearing tomorrow, it’s best to use smoltz to our advantage than to have him press assault charges against me. I agree. It’s also good to remind the world what nina is capable of. Yeah.

the invader feature. It looks like michael didn’t hold back at all. And I know you’re going to say it’s okay, but listen, we both know that you’re not. Just know that you’re not alone. Hey. Hey. Are you here for the elementary school fair, or are you eavesdropping on my private conversations? Well, scout’s got a watercolor that’s worthy of da vinci. I’m telling you, it’s pretty amazing. So the tests confirm that harmony was not your biological mother. It’s not like it’s a surprise. You still got a shock there. I mean, you can take a minute. I wasn’t in denial. I realized that you and carly wouldn’t make it up, but… still. Hey, dante didn’t tell me what the dna test results were. I came because I figured you could use a friend. I…hope that’s okay. It’s more than okay. So thanks for lighting a fire under the lab. What can I do to show the pcpd some appreciation? They didn’t do this because you’re a corinthos or a quartermaine or my brother or even a captain of industry. What? I don’t think you ever called me a captain of industry before. Well, if the title fits, right? Where are you going with this? Nowhere. You tell me. Is there something going on with your business and you don’t want me to know? There you go. Mom? What do you think? It’s perfect. Not that I would expect anything less. Your father is an expert at the perfect corporate appearance. But I’m going to my school fair. And you are perfectly dressed. You are. Leo, the tie looks absolutely great, and your dad and I cannot wait to sit in the audience and watch you read your poem. Right, ned? Of course. Olivia, I promise you, I am not putting business before my family. But? No buts. Elq needs to be here for leo when he comes of age, michael and drew’s agenda notwithstanding. There you go. If I pretend I’m only performing for one person, it makes it less scary. If you do that, you can’t go wrong. Aww.

[ Laughing ] Maybe you ought to take a page out of leo’s book. Stop focusing on everything that could go wrong and cherish everything we have that’s going right. Oh, no, no, no, no, you don’T. It is not that simple. I cannot just wave a magic brief and stop the shareholders from voting you out. You got nobody to blame but yourself. You were gone from port charles. You are not being very helpful. I had an infection. I could have died. Fortunately, for those of us who know and care about you, you’re alive and well and back in fighting form. Unfortunately, your absence gave the quartermaines time to plot your ouster from their company. The minute you turned your back, you gave them an opening. If that family remains a united front, you don’t stand a chance. Look, obviously, harmony was very messed up, but willow still believed that was her mother. You know? She still loved her. Not only does she find out that harmony’s a killer, but that she basically kidnapped willow? I mean, I do not blame you for not wanting to tell willow all of that information the night of the accident. Yeah, willow had a lot going on. But it turns out I didn’t have to tell her. All the information was a part of the police investigation, so dante did it. Well, the important thing is, she knows the truth. Carly:

Can you imagine if ninaturns out to be willow’s mother? That’s going to be a huge problem for michael and willow. And what if the whole thing turns out to not be true? I would have set a hideous chain of events in motion for no reason. Okay. What if it is true? What if the dna test proves that what harmony said is absolutely legit? What are you gonna do? Yeah. Sometimes the truth can be a heavy weight to carry, and I don’t necessarily think willow deserves that burden. You know?

[ Cellphone beeps ] Oh, my god. Okay, I’m sorry to bring this up, but I don’t understand why nina is dragging everyone through this ridiculous hearing, mom. The only reason she can file a petition is because she’s nelle’s biological mother. Oh, my god. Look at nelle. Nelle was insane. She was a baby swapper. I mean, one look at nelle’s police record and the judge should laugh nina out of that courtroom. Nelle is beside the point. The judge should deny nina visitation because of nina’s own actions. Well, I hope that the judge reads the invader, because this feature on nina’s petition makes a strong case. This is perfect. Thank you, shannon. And can you keep holding my calls and make sure you shut the door on your way out? Okay? Thank you. Absolutely.

[ Door closes ] Have you, uh… have you read this? Yeah, an advance copy. And I have to admit, at first I was horrified. You know, that hack reporter paints me as dangerous and deranged, facts courtesy of michael and willow. And now? And now… I am not new to a scandal, curtis, so either I could curl up in a little ball and die, or I could just keep going on with my life and prepare for my day in court and a chance to be in my grandson’s life. In other words, backing down is not an option? You surprised? I shouldn’t be. It’s just that… it’s just — it’s just what, curtis? Just spit it out. I know when you’re trying too hard. Did michael put you up to this? Using a kids’ event to lobby on his behalf? Michael doesn’t need me or want me to fight his battles for him. And frankly, I really wish there weren’t any battles to fight. Yeah, well, you got to ask michael that, ’cause he’s so angry that he wants to change the image of the corinthos name. And, I mean, by the time wiley’s old enough to ask questions about his grandfather, I’m gonna be a distant memory. I’ve got to put a stop to that.

Ss defensive. It’s just now that drew regained control of his elq shares, we’re getting ready for a showdown with valentin. Corporate shenanigans may have to wait, because I’m pretty sure drew is focused on scout’s watercolors she’s exhibiting at the elementary school fair. Good for scout. The world needs more artists. I may be biased, but I think she’s a pretty great artist. You know, the fair is today, by the way. If you want to get your mind off the dna test results, you can come with me. Sounds perfect. After all, marshall left his family when curtis and your dad were just boys. He pretended he was dead. And I have my reasons for wanting to find my grandfather and bring him home. Okay, I tried calling his phone, but it isn’t in service. T.J., It’s possible that — that marshall doesn’t want to be found. Uncle curtis said that, but I need him to tell me that face to face, okay? The trouble is, I’m a doctor, not a cop, and you’re the police commissioner, mom. Help me find my grandfather. I’m not going to let that smoltz and that sleazy feature have power over me. Easier said than done. Who am I kidding? Curtis, everybody loves a scandal, right? And judges, they’re not immune. And michael and willow couldn’t have timed this feature better. I’m sure it’s gonna affect my petition for visitation with wiley, and the only person I can blame is myself. Where is the strong and determined nina reeves that I know and love? Hmm? You have your own ammunition. I do? You do. Look, if michael and willow determine that you’re unfit to see wiley, then you and your attorney should demand to know why someone with sonny’s reputation is granted unrestricted access. Michael feels protective of carly. You can’t really blame him. Yeah, but this is between me and his mother. She’s very capable of fighting her own battles. Michael doesn’t have to do that for her. Still, she’s his mom. Yeah, and I’m his father. I didn’t want the divorce. Carly wanted the divorce, and now michael’s accusing me of being disloyal and unworthy of the name I gave him. Look, I just — I hate seeing bad blood between father and son. So is there something, is there anything at all, anything that you think that I could do to help?

You want to talk about dad? Yeah. But remember, I said I’m not taking sides. I appreciate that. Okay, good. Can we drop it now? No. We can’T. I think you and sonny need to get in a room together and talk. And who knows, maybe you’ll find somewhere to meet in the middle.

[ Scoffs ] The middle. Yeah. Dad made the choice to forsake his family. He put nina first, and the rest of us are a distant second. No. Michael, that’s not true. Sonny cares about his family. And I’ll prove it to you. Have you read part one of the feature yet? No, I have not. Well, you really should consider it karmic payback for nina sabotaging your marriage. Sonny doesn’t get a free pass. My marriage ended because of all the choices sonny made when he came back to port charles. What he did to you was so unfair, and I still don’t really understand it. I don’t understand how sonny tells you he loves you and then treats you that way. Look, I won’t deny that it hurt, okay? It did. But I can move past a broken heart. Sonny’s kids thought he was dead for nine months, and michael, kristina, and dante, they can navigate through their grief or somehow understand it, but avery and donna were babies. And they were sad and they were confused and they missed their dad. I mean, all the tears I wiped off those little girl cheeks, and nina could have put an end to it in 30 seconds and she didn’t? Yeah, she didn’T. I know. Nina kept sonny to herself while we all grieved. We were collateral damage. I’m so sorry. What kind of mother would I be if I didn’t insist that nina suffer the consequences for what she did to our family? For what she’s doing now, to michael and to willow and to wiley. How do you think you can help?

[ Exhales deeply ] Maybe get you and michael together? I’ll play mediator. I definitely won’t take sides. Well, it looks like all the moms and dads are here. I’m sorry.That was tactless. You’re grieving harmony and only just found out that she’s not your biological mother. No, no. If anyone owes an apology, it’s me to you. My mother tried to kill yours. And she wasn’t even my mother, which leaves me with a serious question. Who is? No. No. I won’t allow sonny to be dragged into this. Nina, not even 5 minutes ago you were ready to take on the world, and now you’re giving up? No, but I thought about giving up. I — I visited nelle’s grave, and I was reminded that not only did I miss out on raising that little girl, but I didn’t get the chance to help her. Maybe help her conquer her demons, demons she might not have had if I was the one who raised her. Wiley, he’s all I have left. I can’t turn my back on him. I won’T. I can’t lose another child. Michael’s not gonna listen to reason. I told him that I’m not taking nina’s side at the hearing tomorrow, but I’m not going to throw under the bus either. But he thinks that’s, like, a major betrayal. Michael just — he’s got a lot on his plate right now besides the hearing, so don’t write him off just yet. Try to be patient. Let things kind of settle down a little bit. Michael is building a wall around his family to keep me out. Well, walls don’t stay up forever, you know? Things change. Why would you say that? Is there something that you know that can help me get my family back together? Because if there is, you got to tell me.

Well, because every single time he sees mom, he’s reminded that not only did he betray her, he betrayed himself. Okay. I think there’s more to it than that, michael. But nobody is perfect. Not sonny, not me. And believe it or not, not even you. Yikes. If we don’t leave now, we are gonna be late for leo’s performance. Oh, I think you still have time to explain how you found out about this merger.

[ Sighs ] Michael told me, okay? He assured me that everything’s aboveboard. I don’t think you need to be concerned that your position is being threatened. Michael and drew came up with the plan and started laying the groundwork without ever consulting me. I’m just going to take a shot in the dark here and say that’s because they both work at aurora. Given their close proximity, they have more opportunities to talk. With each other and not to me. Dad, there’s no secrets here. Okay? Michael wants to be completely transparent. I haven’t talked to drew about it, but I’m sure he feels the same way. And they approached you thinking that if they won you over, you could try and sell the idea to me. I’m not selling anything, okay? I just happen to think that merging elq with aurora to dilute valentin’s shares is a genius idea. For michael and drew. They’re planning for the future with no place in it for me. Dad, please don’t do this. Do what? Don’t go to the dark side and say or do something that you’re gonna regret. As a doctor, you have your own powers of observation, as well as an ability to search for clues. Through the lens of a microscope. It’s not so different from police work. Once you start the search, you don’t know where it’s gonna lead. So before you go looking for your biological mother, I would say that you have to ask yourself this — am I prepared for any and all answers, even if it’s not what I want to hear? I can’t really reveal the details, but michael and I are working on an important new project involving aurora and elq. And? And while we’re butting heads with valentin, maybe I can intercede on your behalf and broker peace. Is valentin likely to retaliate? If he does, michael and I can handle it. No disrespect. Despite our differences, I’m not going to let michael go up against valentin cassadine without backup. I want in.

Y is all about leo,dad, okay? Put your politicking over who has control over elq on pause. Tomorrow you can talk to michael, you know? Tell him how you feel. Together, you guys can work out where everyone stands in the new world order. In theory, that sounds good. Wait for it. This is where you dismiss my idea like you always do. Part of me is convinced the pain will never go away until I find out where it came from and who my real mom is. But at the same time, I’m not sure I’m ready. Maybe I never will be. And here I thought you were ready to turn your back on michael, but now you want to help? Yeah, michael turned his back on me. He’s still my son. And, you know, it’s my job to protect him. Well, I’m glad to hear that. Good. So now you’re going to tell me what’s going on with valentin and how I can help. Look, sonny, as much as your friendship means to me, the answer’s no.

If I go looking for my father, I open up myself and my family to more lies, more deception. Yeah, I mean, I know how you feel. One day, wiley is gonna come up to me and ask me all sorts of questions. I’d give anything not to answer them. About nelle? And about me. I could do the easy thing and just give michael and willow what they want and walk away. But you won’t do that. No. I can’t live without my grandchild. Now you have to ask yourself something. Can you live without your father? I already got some time off approved. I’ll head to brooklyn and to the music shop. But — but what if uncle curtis is right? What if marshall doesn’t want to be found and I end up making things worse? What if you end up making things better? Follow your heart, T.J. If aurora and elq merge, then I lose, and drew and michael stand to gain. Yeah. So? Then you have to ask yourself, where does that leave ned? Too many people. Hey, leo, you’re gonna do great. [ Gasps ] You came! I told you I would. Now, you remember chase’s advice, right? But chase is my one person. Where is he? If you want to look at the exhibits, go ahead. I just need to rest a bit. Yeah, of course. I mean, after everything you’ve been through. Once the kids perform, I’m sure I’ll feel better. Okay, um, take your time. And about the identity of your birth mother — if and when you decide to look for her, count me in. We’ll find her together. I have to protect wiley, and that starts with doing whatever I can to support willow and michael. Mom, everybody knows that our family was the wronged party. Everyone knows that you are completely justified in wanting to shield wiley from nina, no matter how far you have to take it. I’m nothing like him. Sonny — sonny takes what he wants. He does what he wants, and to hell with anybody who gets in his way. Now, I owe it to wiley to make the corinthos name mean more than that. Hmm. Yeah, I get you want to rebrand the corinthos name in your image, okay? But why do you have to trash sonny to do it? Why can’t you leave our dad out of it? [ Chuckles ] Elizabeth had, uh, given me the impression that she had reached out to nikolas about staying at wyndemere, but when I spoke to nikolas, he said he hadn’t spoken to her yet. And…ordinarily, I wouldn’t be concerned, but — I know, under these circumstances, I think you’re right to wonder.

[ Sighs ] Any guesses? Um, I was just talking to my brother martin — he said that elizabeth has been… looking for answers from an unlikely source. Lucy. Yeah. And apparently, lucy gave elizabeth the name of her medium. Then that’s where elizabeth is. Shall we? Yes, we shall. Okay.

[ Shuddering ] Chelsea, say something. Ohh! S-s-so cold.

[ Shuddering ] Oh, god. A-a-are you alright? Chelsea…? I’m not chelsea. Franco?

[ Sighs ] “No unplanned, uncontrolled communication.” No unplanned communication because that increases the risk that I’ll be found out, and no one can know that I’m back in fighting form. [ Laughs ] Yeah, well, you know, that ends the whole nature versus nurture debate, right? Because nelle clearly inherited her crazy from nina. I mean, yeah, that’s one way to look at it. But then what does it say about wiley? I’m just saying, if you’re right and it doesn’t matter how or by whom you’re raised, then wiley would inherit the crazy, too, and I know you don’t believe that. No, I don’T. Franco? As beautiful as the day I laid eyes on you.

Would that be a problem? Or not really? Yeah, that would be a very big problem. Just one of those on top of booze would make a person very sloppy. Sloppy how? They’d stagger, they’d fall behind in conversation. They’d — they’d just not be themselves. Think of it like this — take normal drunken behavior and amplify it 2 to 3 times. It can even give you a seizure. Could it make you forget things? Yes, it can cause short-term memory loss, like blacking out after a heavy night of drinking. Why? Have you seen this in esme? No. No, not in esme. Okay. Enough of this. Enough of this “pharma consult” you have me doing. This is serious. What is going on? I-I don’t see how spencer could know anything. He’s sleeping alone, esme, drawn to another girl. He’s looking through your things. T-t-there was nothing to find. I got rid of the prescription label, and maggie’s letters don’t refer to you by name — it doesn’t matter what he did or did not find! What matters is he looked. He’s as false as you are. Worse — he’s shared his suspicions with elizabeth baldwin’s whelp. We don’t know that. Of course we do. Otherwise, cameron wouldn’t have lied about where spencer was. It was right in front of you, and you were too arrogant to see it. I warned you about that boy. I told you to remain on task. But you just couldn’t give up your little toy. The sacrifice that she and tony made is always just under the surface. Some ties just can’t be cut. Including a tie with me? I know the pain of motherhood when it’s staring me in the face. And I would be a liar if I said that…

[ Sniffles ] …When I look you in the eye, I didn’t see a little bit of myself. What’s wrong? I mean, besides the obvious, of course. I-I was glad to see that you and drew could have a civil conversation about nina. Yeah. I mean, drew and I — we have a solid relationship. You know, we trust and respect each other implicitly. [ Sighs ] I got nervous when the subject came up. Why? Well, after what happened with your father, I didn’t want the same thing to go down with you and drew. Hey. What? You want to tell me why you didn’t talk to me the whole ride over here? Because that was some stunt you pulled back there. And here I thought I came to your rescue — twice. Rescue? Okay. If I have some explaining to do, just let me do the explaining. You were like a deer in the headlights. I had to come up with something. Really? Did you have to sing grandma nina’s praises?

[ Chuckling ] I did not sing her praises. You know what I mean. What was the point of that? I believe it’s in your purse right now — dna from a stolen toothbrush and — and a glass that together might prove that nina is willow’s mother, and if that is the case — that’s a big “if.” If it’s the case, isn’t it better that michael and nina aren’t in battle right now? That would be better, wouldn’t it, carly?

I’m telling you — franco was here. You don’t believe me. No. That’s not it.

[ Sighs ] I-I get that you want to believe. You think I’m losing it. No, honey, no one said that. I think that you are frustrated and angry after months of searching for answers and coming up empty. Yes, I think you’re considering some solutions that are… crazy? No. Unorthodox. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Elizabeth, come home with me. But there’s nothing to be afraid of here anymore. It was franco all along. If esme is in any way misusing these drugs, you need to help me put a stop to it. I don’t know anything for sure. Okay, but even if you suspect — I’ll take care of it, okay? [ Sighs lightly ] If you care about her — if you want your girlfriend to be healthy and be in a healthy relationship, you can’t let this go on. What? No, I’m just wondering… what the hell would you know about a healthy relationship, britt? Are you threatening me? I’m just exploring my options. I’m fairly certain the authorities would much rather learn about your status update than come after me. You’d sacrifice me, just like that? If it means saving myself… in a heartbeat.

[ Chuckles ] No, but… what am I going to tell him? I imagine that you’ll tell him the same thing that you’ll tell wiley when he asks you the same questions. That day is coming, too. [ Scoffs ] My father put someone who actively hurt his wife and his children above his own family, so I-I can’t act like that didn’t happen or ignore that. Elizabeth: You don’t have to keep checking on me.

Finn: But I really like checking in on you. As a matter of fact, this is the only time I wish you were working a double shift. I mean, I’m here. The hospital’s got security cameras.

Elizabeth: Fortunately, Nikolas asked me to stay at Wyndemere. I don’t love the fact that Esme is there, considering what we think she did to Cameron and Josslyn — filming a sex tape and putting it out there for the world to see — but at least I know Cameron is safe, staying in the dorms with friends, and Jake and Aiden are with Kevin and Laura. And as for me, there’s no place more secure than Spoon Island. [ Chuckles ]

Finn: Yeah, okay. Wouldn’t be my first choice, but… you’re headed there now?

Elizabeth: I just have to make a quick stop first, um, and so I-I have to go. I’ll talk to you later? Okay, bye.

Drew: Carly, you and I need to talk.

Carly: Drew — I don’t know what you think you saw.

Drew: I saw Nina put down her drink, and then she left. And then I saw you pick up the drink and put it in your purse. The question’s why?

Nina: Hi. It’s been a while since I came to visit, and I figured I owed you an explanation. I am… I’m fighting for visitation rights with Wiley. You probably already know that. And Willow and Michael, they’re fighting me on it, so there’s gonna be a hearing. And they’ve also decided to fight dirty. So they paid off this reporter to do a feature on me. He’s making me look like a villain, which is ironic because… that’s how the whole world saw you. Unfortunately, everything he’s writing… is true. I’ve made some pretty bad choices in my life. So have you. I just wanted the world to know… that you’re not all bad. That your life mattered.

[ Door opens ]

Michael: Hey. How’d it go?

Willow: We had a good talk. Alexis just left.

Michael: Are you okay? I know Alexis can be kind of intense.

Willow: It was definitely an intense conversation. I’m going to have to get that DNA test for the police eventually. And I know it’s going to prove that Harmony wasn’t my biological mother, which makes me related to no one.

Michael: How about a break? The boat’s out of the dry dock. We can ride it up to Sawyer.

Willow: Can we take the car instead? I need to go somewhere.

Sonny: They’re gonna stop the rescue operation. And Jason…is dead.

Carly: No. They told me the same thing about you, and it turned out to not be true. They did.

Sonny: I want to believe Jason’s still out there, too, Carly.

Laura: Sonny.

Sonny: I’m sorry, I was, uh, lost in thought.

Laura: I’m not surprised. I bet you have a lot on your mind now.

Sonny: Yeah. I don’t know if you heard, but Monica is finalizing the paperwork to have Jason legally declared dead.

Laura: I did not know that. I’m sorry.

Sonny: And everybody’s into all kinds of discussion about whether, you know, the memorial plaque should be at the Quartermaine crypt or in the graveyard next to Morgan. I mean… [ Chuckles ]

Laura: Oh, I’m sorry. That’s a very heavy burden.

Sonny: Yeah. Yeah.

Laura: Oh. That’s not what I was referring to, though. I-I was talking about the feature about Nina petitioning the court for visitation rights with your grandson.

Sonny: I — what are you talking about?

Laura: Oh, it — it’s a feature. Right. Part one of a feature. It just showed up on The Invader’s website just about an hour ago. I —

Sonny: You — you think I’m gonna not like it? Is that what’s going on here?

Laura: [ Sighs ] Well… there’s an awful lot in there about what happened with you and Nina.

Nikolas: I read the piece. It doesn’t paint Nina in a very good light. I guess that means that, uh, the two of you are made for each other.

Spencer: I just feel that I don’t know you as well as I thought. And I wanted to find out what I didn’t know.

Esme: Then why not just ask me? I mean, we used to talk about everything. And if we’re gonna get back to what we had, then we have to be honest with each other about everything. Completely transparent.

Spencer: I agree. How ’bout we start with this? Why did Maggie write, “no good can come from you having contact with your father”?

Esme: I-I can see how this, um… doesn’t make sense.

Spencer: Because it doesn’t. You told me you fell out of contact with your nanny years ago.

Spencer: Yes, that’s — th-that’s true, but — but in that letter, it sounds like she knows who your biological parents are. Does that mean that you know as well? Who exactly is your father?

[ Doorbell rings ]

Elizabeth: [ Sighs ] I know, this is crazy, but I’m doing it for you.

Chelsea: Elizabeth Baldwin?

Elizabeth: Yes, that’s me.

Chelsea: I’m Chelsea Lam. I’m here to help you.

Elizabeth: Please, come in. Lucy Coe has said some great things about you. She thought that maybe you could help me get some answers. Is that possible?

Chelsea: I’m not sure. I guess we’ll find out together.

Elizabeth: Okay.

Chelsea: What do you say we contact a spirit?

Carly: Okay, fine, fine. You caught me. I’m up to something.

Drew: Well, that’s a real shock.

Carly: And it’s for a good reason.

Drew: To do with Nina.

Carly: I can’t give you the details.

Drew: Carly.

Carly: Because I don’t want you involved.

Drew: Well, that sounds ominous.

Carly: [ Sighs ] Certain information fell into my lap.

Drew: And you prefer to carry the weight of that secret alone?

Carly: No. I would prefer to tell my best friend. Jason would listen without judging, and he would let me work through things. And if I did something that he didn’t approve of, he would still support me.

Drew: Well, if you’re looking for someone to be Jason, I can’t be that guy for you.

Nina: If I’m honest with myself, I guess I did want Carly to suffer a little the way she made you and me suffer. But I could have done a better job at building the bridge between me and Michael and Carly and Willow. That way, I could have had an active part in Wiley’s life, and I would have told that little boy about you. But that’s not the choice that I made.

Nina: But in the moment, when Wiley looked at me and asked me how we were connected, I was thinking about Nelle.

Carly: Nina —

Nina: come on! And no matter what she did when she was alive, we can’t just pretend that she didn’t exist. We can’t. We can’t just pretend that she didn’t give birth to this miracle of a grandson that we both share.

Carly: I doubt we’ll be sharing Wiley in the near future.

Nina: Now there’s an all-out war, a war that I cannot lose, and I’m prepared to go all the way so I can be part of Wiley’s life… …and that my only daughter is not forgotten.

Sonny: I don’t want to listen to your lies.

Laura: Nikolas. Nikolas.

Sonny: [ Chuckles ]

Laura: You know what? I love running into you, but I wish that you would adhere to the old adage, “If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”

Nikolas: Well, I’ll remember that the next time you cross paths with uncle Victor.

Laura: Are you equating Victor and Sonny?

Nikolas: Oh, that’s unfair — to Victor. I will never understand the blind spot you have for Sonny. He’s just a bully. The way he went after Esme. You kidnapped her.

Sonny: Okay. Here you go, opening your mouth when you know nothing. I was just talking to Esme. But unlike you, who — who buys her little innocent act… you think I’m a bully? You know what you are? An idiot! I’m sorry. I’ll see you later.

Laura: Okay.

Nikolas: Hey, don’t you walk away from me.

Laura: Oh!

Nikolas: Aah!

Sonny: Don’t you ever, ever put your hand on my shoulder!

Esme: Do you think that if I knew who my biological father was, you wouldn’t know, too?

Spencer: I don’t know how to answer that… because the letter that you’re holding basically contradicts everything that you’ve told me about your past.

Esme: Everything I’ve told you is true. Maggie and I lost contact, and… I-I hadn’t spoken to her in years.

Spencer: So then how does she know so much about me, Esme?

Esme: I… started asking questions about my biological parents. I had been…so alone. And then I-I-I met you and we started to talk about a future together. And I realized that I might need answers one day, so I-I tracked down my old nanny and I started… fishing to see what she knew about my biological parents. Once it became clear that Maggie did know something, I ingratiated myself and regaled her with stories of — of my life at school and my handsome new boyfriend.

Spencer: And that worked?

Esme: No. Turns out Maggie did know something, but she wasn’t inclined to share. Once that became clear, I cut her out of my life. And that, Spence, is God’s honest truth.

Spencer: So then why did you keep all of those letters?

Chelse: So tell me, Elizabeth, why am I here?

Elizabeth: Well, there has been some weird incidents. They started in my home and then at my place of work at the hospital, and most recently, at a hotel where I was staying. I can’t explain what’s happening. The police have investigated, but there have been no signs of forced entry.

Chelsea: But signs of your late husband keep showing up?

Elizabeth: Did you just sense that?

Chelsea: Oh. [ Chuckles ] No, I’m not that good. Lucy gave me some background information when she referred you. I’m not a psychic. I can’t read minds. But if I could see the Powerball numbers, I would have a seaside retreat in Maui. However, I do believe that the spirits of the universe are always talking to us. It’s just a matter of whether or not we stop and listen to the messages. I take it this is your first time talking to a medium?

Elizabeth: Yes. [ Chuckles ] Must be written all over my face. My friend Terry was going to come with me, but then you said you wanted to meet me here.

Chelsea: Oh, Lucy informed me that the majority of the incidents happened in this house. If it’s your late husband’s doing, he’ll have the strongest connection here.

Elizabeth: Right, yeah, that makes sense. Only…what if it’s not him?

Drew: I’m not my brother. But I will try to have an open mind. And obviously I don’t consider myself the boss of you, but if I disagree with something that I hear, I can’t promise to support you without judgment.

Carly: Well, good to know.

Drew: Hey, hey, hey, hey, I’m just being honest with you. Okay? That’s what I — I will always be honest, no matter what. Even if it’s what you don’t want to hear. And if you are in over your head, I promise you that I’m — I’m gonna be there for you. I’m gonna help you dig yourself out, so… so what’s going on? Okay, that’s — that’s your call.

Carly: Drew, wait. Drew, wait, okay? Look… I want to tell you, but I think you’d be more comfortable if you walked away, because it’s big.

Drew: I’m here and I’m listening.

Carly: I was the last person in the room with Harmony before she died.

Drew: Okay.

Drew: She told me that Nina… is Willow’s birth mother.

Nina: What are you two doing at my daughter’s grave?

Michael: We’re on the way to where Jonah is buried, and before you ask, Wiley is at home with Monica.

Nina: Willow…I’m so sorry about Jonah. To — to find out you lost a child long after they passed away, it’s devastating, isn’t it? I know you think of me as your enemy, but I understand the pain that you’re going through.

Willow: If you don’t want to be thought of as an enemy, Nina, stop acting like one.

Michael: You know, Willow didn’t know that her son had died because Nelle switched him with Wiley, so while you’re contemplating Willow’s devastation, you should probably blame your daughter.

Nina: Wow, Michael, you never miss an opportunity to say something awful about Nelle.

Michael: And you never miss the opportunity to rewrite history.

Nina: I don’t know why I’m even engaging with you. Willow, I was just trying to express my sympathy to you.

Willow: Yeah. This would be the right time. In the last 24 hours, I lost… I lost my mother in more ways than one. And the stress of the hearing is only making things worse, so if you want to express your sympathy, then please stop this once and for all.

Nikolas: [ Groans ]

Laura: Hey, hey, hey. That’s enough. Sonny, stop it, both of you.

Nikolas: Did you see that, Martin? He — he attacked me.

Martin: Do you have the situation under control?

Laura: Yes. Yes. It’s gonna be fine. Sonny, look, under the circumstances, I think it’s pro–

Sonny: No, I know, I know. I’m — I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m going.

Esme: I, um… kept my nanny’s letters for sentimental reasons. And, no, I don’t mean I have a soft streak for sappy greeting cards and cute puppies, but… …when you don’t have any real family in this world, you feel very isolated. And, yes, I cut Maggie out of my life, but… those letters remind me of better days. And with you being so distant… they have even more meaning. So there it is. You asked me for explanations, and I gave them to you. So let’s stop dancing around this — do you believe in me… in us… …or not?

Chelsea: The candles are a good touch. Can we dim the lights and light a few more?

Elizabeth: Sure. Go ahead. I’ll get the lights.

Chelsea: Let’s see what kind of poltergeist could be behind this.

Elizabeth: Poltergeist?

Chelsea: Oh, that movie ruined a rather neutral term. A ghost is a spirit of someone who was passed, while a poltergeist could be a spirit or it could be a psychic impression of someone who is still living. Sort of a square/rectangle situation. Similar, but not the same.

Elizabeth: Oh, I see.

Chelsea: Do you have anything of sentimental value to your late husband?

Elizabeth: Yes.

Drew: Nina…is Willow’s birth mother? How is that even possible? I thought Nelle was Nina’s long-lost daughter.

Carly: Harmony said Willow was a twin.

Drew: Willow and Nelle, twins?

Carly: According to Harmony.

Drew: Do you have anything to back this?

Carly: No. Supposedly, Willow is months younger than Nelle, but Willow’s birth certificate was forged. That poor girl doesn’t even know when her birthday is.

Drew: [ Sighs ]

Carly: And that’s why I showed up here tonight. I wanted to get information from Phyllis about the night Nelle was born. Phyllis took care of Nina at the time, and it turns out that Phyllis wasn’t even there during the actual birth, so she wouldn’t know if there had been twin babies. So the only way to prove or disprove what Harmony said is with a DNA test. When I saw Nina’s glass sitting there, I just grabbed it.

Drew: You’re gonna perform a DNA test without Nina knowing, and Willow’s on board with this?

Carly: Willow doesn’t know.

Nina: I’m not heartless, Willow. But let me remind you, I’m not the one that started this. You two did. By that five-part feature in The Invader. I’m sure Smoltz is going to get a Pulitzer for that. Oh, wait, there’s not a category for biased hit jobs.

Michael: You know, there couldn’t be a feature if there — if there wasn’t a petition in the first place. All Willow and I did was cooperate with the reporter. Now, if you feel anything that Smoltz wrote is untrue, then you can sue.

Nina: I’ve always tried to compromise with you.

Willow: When? When? When did you ever offer to compromise?! The night I went to your office, I said that if you would back off, give Michael time, stop pushing, I would find a way for you to see Wiley!

Nina: Oh, really?

Willow: Yeah!

Nina: And I was supposed to trust that? You just want me to sign off my rights to my grandson?

Michael: You don’t have any rights to Wiley. You had a right to file a petition, and you’ve done that. This fight is on you.

Willow: Yeah. Your idea of a compromise is to get your way. And you know what? That works for you. But it doesn’t work for Wiley.

Nina: My heart breaks for you. It truly does, Willow, for your losses. For Jonah and for Harmony. But my empathy for you does not overshadow my love for my grandson, and it definitely doesn’t overshadow my love for my daughter.

Nikolas: [ Sighs ]

Laura: How’s your hand?

Nikolas: It’s — probably just pulled something. I’m fine.

Martin: Oh, you could have a sprain.

Nikolas: Yeah. Courtesy of Sonny Corinthos. And are we all just gonna pretend that kidnapping Esme and intimidating her is just — it’s okay?

Laura: Nikolas, Esme is prone to exaggeration. And if I didn’t know better, I’d say that you were defending her.

Nikolas: I don’t believe that she filmed joss and Cam having sex and then framed Trina as the culprit. Do you?

Esme: Do you believe in me? I’m sorry, Esme.

Spencer: I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have doubted you. I don’t really know why I did.

Esme: You keep letting your supposed friends get into your head. Though I — I have to give Cam a little credit. I saw him at Kelly’s earlier when I was upset, and he was able to be nice to me, though. Unlike Trina and Joss. But as a reminder, I’m the one who’s always been there for you. I want us to get back to what we had.

Spencer: That’s what I want, too.

Esme: Oh, Spence. Can we just put all this aside and commit to each other again? Can we try to do that?

Spencer: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait, wait. Stop, stop, stop, stop.

Esme: Why are you stopping? It’s been so long since we’ve been with each other. What’s wrong?

Laura: I believe that Trina Robinson is innocent, and I can reserve judgment about Esme until after Trina has been exonerated. Okay? I’m sorry we’re reuniting under these circumstances.

Martin: As am I. I was supposed to meet with my nephew to discuss certain options regarding his marriage.

Laura: Oh, no. I don’t like the sound of that. But you’re gonna have to postpone it anyway, because you’ve got to go to G.H. And check out your hand.

Nikolas: Mother, I’ll be fine. I box.

Laura: [ Sighs ] Humor me, okay? Let me drive you.

Nikolas: Thanks. I have a driver.

Martin: Little sister, trouble certainly seems to follow our family, does it not?

Laura: [ Chuckles ] It certainly seems to.

Michael: You never knew the real Nelle. I have a feeling you’d be a little less protective of her if you did.

Sonny: Is there — is there a problem here? What’s going on?

Nina: Sonny, you don’t have to get involved.

Michael: No. Nina is just giving Willow a hard time, not that it matters, because I fully expect you to defend Nina.

Sonny: You know what, Michael? I already told you I’m gonna have your back during this visitation hearing. It doesn’t matter what you think of me or whether you believe me or not.

Michael: Oh, really?

Sonny: Yeah.

Michael: Okay, then here’s your chance to prove yourself. Why don’t you tell Nina to back off and stop harassing the mother of your grandson?

Carly: I’m not gonna burden Willow with this. She and Nina hate each other. They’re about to go head-to-head in court. Plus, I can’t be sure that Harmony was telling the truth. This could be one big manipulation.

Drew: Look, I’ve seen a few people die in my day, and when someone sees that it’s the end, the last thing they’re thinking about is manipulating anyone.

Carly: I get that, but I can’t take it on faith that Nina gave birth to twins in a coma and no one knew about it. Come on. I’m not gonna add to Willow’s grief. I’m not gonna put this on her plate unless I know for sure.

Drew: I see your point. Thank you. But there’s a catch. You have a sample of Nina’s DNA, but you don’t have one for Willow.

Carly: I know, I know. I gotta find some way to get into the gatehouse.

Drew: How are you gonna do that? You gonna go for a visit and just hope that Willow doesn’t see you stealing her toothbrush? I mean, it’s not like you live on the property.

Carly: You do.

Elizabeth: This is my wedding ring, which mysteriously ended up in my locker at work. We got our rings —

Chelsea: Elizabeth, stop. I know you’re trying to be helpful, but it’s actually better if I know less of the background information. That’s how we’ll know it’s really him. Come, sit with me.

Elizabeth: [ Sighs ]

Chelsea: Take my hands. Close your eyes. I’m listening to see if anyone is reaching out to us. If anyone wants their presence to be known [Shakily] While we…

Elizabeth: Chelsea? What is it?

Chelsea: There is a dark presence in this house.

Spencer: Of course I want to reconnect with you. Just not right now.

Esme: Why not?

Spencer: Because we have hit a very significant bump in our relationship, and as we come back together, we need to do it right. It needs to feel special and meaningful, not like some random, uh, spur-of-the-moment kind of thing.

Esme: That’s a sweet thought. Come on, Spence, it’s not like it’s our first time. [ Chuckles ]

Spencer: Esme. I’m serious. It might as well be our first time because we are making a fresh start. There’s not gonna be any more secrets. I mean, if we truly plan on spending the rest of our lives with each other, we need to start on the right foot.

Esme: Okay. What did, um, you have in mind?

Spencer: Well, you’ll have to wait and see. But I can promise you this — I have something very, very special in store for you. Okay. I got to go.

Esme: Wait. Um… was there anything else you wanted to ask me?

Spencer: What do we have here?

Spencer: No, I think we got it all figured out.

Laura: I’m so glad we had a chance to catch up.

Martin: Aw.

Laura: I really missed you. Oh, my goodness. I forgot to ask. How’s Florence?

Martin: Oh, mama’s good. Well enough. I think she felt I was smothering her a little bit.

Laura: Eh, it’s the circle of life, isn’t it?

Martin: I guess.

Laura: Yeah. The child becomes the parent.

Martin: Well, one thing’s for sure, she was happy to see me get back to my life.

Laura: Mm. So can I assume that things are good with you and Lucy?

Martin: [ Chuckles ] Better than good. I’m gonna end up in the hospital. That woman is a sexual panther.

Laura: [ Laughs ] That’s a little too much information.

Martin: Well, it’s a good thing that Valentin has signed off on our relationship, gave us his blessing.

Laura: Not that you should have ever needed it.

Martin: Eh, well, it makes things that much easier. And it would have made our reunion that much sweeter, but, ugh.

Laura: It would have?

Martin: Mm-hmm.

Laura: What happened?

Martin: Well, we were made aware of what happened to Elizabeth at the hotel.

Chelsea: I don’t think you’re safe here. There’s a darkness in this house.

Elizabeth: Well, then it’s definitely not my husband. He — he loved me. He loved my boys. He only wanted us to be happy. Who else could it be? Are you getting any other clues?

Chelsea: The presence is speaking to me. It doesn’t go by their first name. Perhaps the middle name? Or last name?

Elizabeth: Robert Frank. Franco?!

Drew: Oh!

Carly: Shh!

Drew: God, I can’t believe you talked me into this.

Carly: Oh, my God, why did you turn on the lights?!

Drew: Well, because, if Michael or Willow or anyone catches us, it’s gonna be very hard to explain what you and I are doing in here alone in the dark.

Carly: Okay, you do not have to be a part of this. You don’t. If you don’t believe in this and you think what we’re doing is not for the greater good, now would be your time to bail.

Drew: Just be quick, please. Just be fast.

Carly: I’ll be right back. Okay.

Drew: Faster. Hurry.

Carly: Okay.

Drew: Yeah.

Sonny: First of all, Michael, I’m your father. You’re my son. You don’t give me orders.

Nina: Uh, I have been a little hard on Willow.

Willow: A little?

Nina: I apologize, Willow, for some of the things that I said. I prolonged the conversation more than I should.

Michael: I’m still waiting, dad. Here’s your chance to say that Nina was wrong. Nothing? Oh. I guess, uh, when Nina asked you for forgiveness for what she did in Nixon Falls, she, uh… she must’ve really begged. Huh?

Sonny: At least she had the courage to apologize. Unlike someone else I know.

Michael: [ Scoffs ] I got nothing to apologize for.

Sonny: Of course.

Michael: Let’s go, Willow.

Esme: I’m excited for the big surprise. You know I love a grand gesture, just like you love making them. It’s just one of the reasons why I love you.

Spencer: Yeah, me too.

Esme: Better than I thought. Don’t take anything at face value right now.

Spencer: Britt, can we meet? It is very important.

Laura: Jake and Aiden are staying with me and Kevin, and I wanted Elizabeth to stay with us too. But, uh, well, up until just a few days ago, she insisted on staying at her own house by herself.

Martin: Huh.

Laura: [ Sighs ] I’m really worried about her.

Martin: Well, it may not be a comfort, but Lucy gave Elizabeth the name of her medium.

Laura: Her medium?

Martin: Yeah. And according to Lucy, she read you once upon a time. Uh, Chelsea Lam.

Laura: Yes.

Martin: Yeah.

Laura: Yes.

Martin: According to Lucy, Elizabeth believes she’s being haunted.

Elizabeth: My late husband was born Robert Frank. He went by a variation of his last name, Franco. But he loved me. He loved our family. He would never want to hurt us.

Chelsea: I’m sensing this person was born out of trauma and pain. Someone who was abandoned by their family. Someone who finally found a real family in these walls. That someone doesn’t much like this new family being made here now.

Finn: What’s going on with the hand?

Nikolas: I’m fine, really. I just promised my mother I’d get it checked out.

Finn: Ah. Hey, look, this isn’t easy for me to say, but… I appreciate what you’re doing for Elizabeth.

Nikolas: What are you talking about?

Finn: What am I talking about? She’s staying at Wyndemere until we figure out who’s been breaking into her house.

Nikolas: I missed a call from Elizabeth earlier this afternoon, but we never touched base.

Elizabeth: Fortunately, Nikolas asked me to stay at Wyndemere. As for me, there’s no place more secure than Spoon Island.

Finn: If Elizabeth’s not at Wyndemere, where the hell is she?

Chelsea: This presence is being very clear. They don’t want this new family to be formed in this house.

Elizabeth: No. No, I refuse to believe that. The Franco I knew, the Franco I loved, would only want to see me happy. Is he here now? Can he hear me? Tell him I believe he’s here. Tell him I’m ready to listen.

Nina: I’m sorry that you and Michael got into it. I — I hate being the wedge between you two.

Sonny: Well, you know, there’s no way around it, right?

Nina: Yeah. You’re gonna have to go for the jugular. I mean, at the hearing. I know you’re gonna support Michael in the courtroom. Things are gonna get pretty tense in there.

Sonny: [ Chuckles ]

Nina: I wish things were simple, like they are at Charlie’s and at The Savoy. Remember the other night?

Sonny: Yeah.

Nina: But they’re not going to be, not for a while. Sonny, maybe we should keep our distance till this is all over. And then we can come back and decide what’s next. If anything is next.

Ned: Oh, good. You’re back.

Drew: Hey. I was just out for a run. What’s up?

Ned: Well, I just wanted to follow up with you about the plan to merge ELQ and Aurora.

Drew: Okay. How can I help?

Ned: Call it off.

Esme: It means so much to me that you wouldn’t turn your back on me. Thank you for being so kind. I’m just glad you’re your own man.

Josslyn: No, he’s my man. And you have about five seconds to get your tentacles off of him.

Esme: My tentacles? Wow, Joss. At least my claws would have been sharp, but tentacles?

Josslyn: They’re slimy.

Trina: And they suck.

Esme: I know you guys don’t believe this, but I do have feelings.

Trina: Oh, we know.

Josslyn: Jealousy, possessiveness. Now get lost. And next time you think about talking to my boyfriend, don’t. Because you have one of your own.

Esme: Cam, do you want me to go? See? Cam can make his own decisions. So you’re just gonna have to get over the fact that Cam and Spence are on my side.

Spencer: This season, last season. This season… three seasons ago? Very unlike you, Esme. What do we have here?

Michael: What are you thinking?

Willow: That my mother is dead. But she wasn’t my mother… …and I have no idea who is.

Nina: I didn’t want this fight, Ava, but now that I’m in it, I’m gonna come out guns blazing and Carly’s gonna hope to God that she’s not in the line of fire.

Carly: How is it that you manage to see yourself as the victim in situations that you’ve caused?

Nina: You, Michael, and Willow backed me into a corner about Wiley. I had no choice but to fight.

Carly: You always have choices, and you always make the wrong ones.

Nina: I did everything I could to avoid a court battle. Carly, Michael and Willow forced my hand. And what is this smear campaign that you’re doing about me in the press?

Carly: Oh, what about the feature isn’t true? I mean, if anything is even a little inaccurate, I’ll ask them to retract it myself. And you? She forced you into labor and then she stole your baby. How is it you’re friends now?

Ava: People change.

Nina: All I asked, ever, was a little time with my grandson. Not even a lot. And if you just took five seconds to stop and think about it, Carly, you’d see that we want the same thing.

Carly: Yeah? What’s that?

Nina: Peace.

Willow: How messed up is it that I’m so sad about Harmony? I don’t even know how I wound up with her, if I was stolen, if…my birth parents gave me away. All I know is that Harmony carted me around all over the country from commune to ashram to cult. [ Scoffs ] And now I’m sad that she’s gone?

Michael: I mean, hey, she’s the only mother you ever knew. Of course you’re gonna be sad.

Willow: [ Sighs ] And now I have to go to the PCPD and provide a DNA sample so they can verify Harmony’s motive for killing Neil Byrne and his brother. It is… [ Exhales sharply ] It’s too much.

Michael: Okay, just don’t — don’t worry about the DNA test, okay? I-I can run interference.

Willow: You sure?

Michael: Yeah. I mean, if the — the brother-to-brother appeal with Dante doesn’t work, then there’s always Diane.

[ Knock on door ]

Michael: Hey, Alexis. What brings you by?

Alexis: Hey, I can certainly understand why this might not be a good time, but I was hoping to speak to Willow… about Harmony.

Cameron: I-I’m not choosing sides here, but if I did, I’d have to side with Joss and Trina.

Trina: Not choosing a side is the same as backing the bad guy.

Esme: I am sick and tired of having the same fight with you.

Josslyn: Then come clean. Confess. Say it was some practical joke that got out of hand and you didn’t know how to handle it.

Esme: Why would I confess to something that I didn’t do?

Josslyn: See? You haven’t changed. As for feelings, the only ones you have are for yourself.

Esme: Whatever, Joss. Your issues with me say way more about you than they ever will about me.

Trina: 50% deflection, 50% deception, and 100% shady.

Esme: You two enjoy feeling superior. Thanks for comforting me, Cam. It’s nice to know someone around here still has a heart.

Josslyn: What the hell was that?

Cameron: It’s not what it looks like.

Josslyn: Oh, and — and now you’re texting someone.

Cameron: Look, just give me a second and I’ll explain.

Josslyn: Cameron! Who at this moment could you possibly be texting that is more important than me and Trina?

Spencer: No label. No way to trace it. Unless… [ Inhales sharply ] Alright, Esme. What else are you hiding?

Nina: I heard about Harmony. There’s already been so much devastation.

Carly: You say that like you didn’t cause any of it?

Nina: Yeah, I made my share of mistakes. Mistakes.

Carly: Boy, that’s your favorite word.

Nina: And I’ve hurt a lot of people because, Carly, I was hurting.

Carly: And let me guess — this is where you blame me again?

Nina: No. I understand that… Willow and Michael, they make their own decisions, but they really respect your opinion.

Ava: You know, it’s, uh — it’s getting late, so I’m gonna run. Uh, unless…you ladies need a referee?

Nina: No, we’ll be fine.

Carly: Goodbye, Ava.

Nina: Carly. Sit with me. Please.

Carly: I only have a minute. I’m here to check on Phyllis. I want to see how she’s doing since the robbery.

Nina: I assume you heard that from Sonny.

Carly: No. I have my own sources. But if you’re wondering if I talk to Sonny, the answer’s yes.

Michael: Um, you know, there’s some things I got to take care of at the house, so I’ll leave you to it.

[ Door opens ]

Willow: So…

[ Door closes ]

Alexis: I am just now realizing I only planned what I was going to say through the introduction. So now we’re past that.

Willow: Okay, then. I’ll start.

Alexis: Oh, please.

Willow: Turns out Harmony was… capable of terrible things. But that’s not all she was. And for the time you had a friendship, I choose to believe that it was real. And I’m… glad she had you.

Alexis: I was grateful to have her as a friend, too. She came along when I really needed one. The tragedy is that she knew how to fake being a good person so well.

Willow: Well, I can’t believe it was all fake.

Alexis: I guess we’ll never know. Seems neither of us really knew her, did we?

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Spencer: Esme is on her way back. Esme or not, I can’t give up now.

Josslyn: What is going on with you lately?

Cameron: What do you mean?

Trina: You’ve been acting weird.

Josslyn: What Trina said.

Trina: Like super in denial weird. And by weird, I mean, like…

Josslyn: Esme made a sex tape of us and shared it with the world.

Trina: And I may be going to prison for it.

Josslyn: And you’re over here, like la, la, la, giving Spencer his job back?

Cameron: That was a business decision.

Josslyn: Hugging Esme? Was that a business decision?

Cameron: I didn’t hug her. She hugged me.

Josslyn: Cam, that is the second time I have seen her with her arms wrapped around you. Learn how to dodge.

Cameron: What do you want me to do? Do you want me to leap out of the way or slide across the counter?

Josslyn: Why are you making excuses to comfort her?

Trina: Okay, guys, we need to chill out.

Cameron: Thank you!

Josslyn: Why?

Trina: Because! Arguing like this, this is what Esme wants.

Josslyn: She probably saw us heading over here and then ran like crazy to beat us just so we could walk in on her hugging Cam.

Trina: Okay, Cam, please help us understand. [ Sighs ] I get why you gave Spencer back his job, but…

Josslyn: I don’t.

Trina: …But why are you supporting someone who ruined all of our lives, yours included?

Cameron: I’m just… I’m trying to do the right thing.

Josslyn: No. The right thing would be to stay as far away from Esme and Spencer as possible.

Trina: I gotta go.

Josslyn: You do?

Trina: Yeah. Homework.

Josslyn: Okay. Before you go…

Trina: Thanks. Remember — play nice. Listen to each other. Don’t let Esme win.

Cameron: I won’t.

Josslyn: Did you see that? Why would you hurt Trina that way?

Trina: Hi. I need your help. It’s important.

Drew: Sorry to keep you waiting. Not a problem. I’m on my way to meet Sam. We’re gonna discuss Scout’s summer schedule.

Ned: Oh, so you have to rush out? I do, but I’m hoping to put your mind at ease first.

Ned: Well, I think you know what my concerns are.

Drew: I believe I do, Ned, and like I said, my ELQ shares are gonna revert back to me very soon. Valentin will no longer have majority, but he’s still gonna own a lot of shares, so our position is in order to protect us from future takeovers, the best possible situation is for Aurora and ELQ to merge. That way Valentin’s remaining shares will be even more diluted.

Ned: And what will the leadership structure be in this new company?

Drew: Yeah. I really think that we should wait for Michael to talk about this.

Michael: Here I am. Talk about what? You two think merging ELQ and Aurora is the best strategy to keep ELQ in the family. Now, correct me if I’m wrong, if that merger goes through… I’m out in the cold.

Nina: Carly, I know that you and Sonny will always be in each other’s lives, but Sonny is not who we need to talk about right now.

Carly: You got that right.

Nina: How’s Willow?

Carly: She’s grieving… and heartbroken.

Nina: Yeah. Please send her my condolences.

Carly: No. Don’t do that. Don’t pretend to be concerned about Willow when you were just ranting about how she’s the one who forced you to fight with my family.

Nina: I’m concerned about Wiley, and Willow is Wiley’s mother. So in turn, I’m concerned about Willow.

Carly: Yeah, well, fortunately, Wiley’s too young to understand what’s going on.

Nina: Yeah. But did they tell him that his grandmother died? That grandma Harmony is gone?

Carly: When and if they tell him, that will be up to Willow and Michael.

Nina: No, I understand it’s up to Willow and Michael, Carly, but you don’t want that little boy to feel like he was abandoned by his grandmother. I don’t think it’s fair to keep this from him.

Carly: Are you kidding me? Wiley is too young to process that kind of information. Kind of like when you told him that Willow wasn’t his real mommy. How you hand someone that kind of information can do more harm than good.

Nina: Well, lies can do harm, too.

Carly: Boy, yours sure did, huh?

Nina: Alright, Carly [Clears throat] Whether Wiley knows about his grandmother dying or not, you know, he lost her. She is no longer in his life. Is it really fair for this little boy to lose another grandmother, too?

Carly: You’re not doing this for Wiley. You’re doing this for yourself because you can’t see past your own selfishness to do what’s best for him.

Josslyn: Trina is about to be tried for a felony, one that Esme set her up for, blowing up all of our lives in the process. It is us versus her.

Cameron: Look, Joss, the last thing that I want to do is hurt either you or Trina.

Josslyn: Then what are you doing comforting the enemy?

Cameron: Look, I told you. It’s not like that.

Josslyn: I don’t care who hugged who… but, Cam, you cannot give Esme a literal shoulder to cry on knowing who she is and what she’s done.

Cameron: Okay, look. She came in here looking for Spencer. When I told her that he wasn’t here, she got all upset. What was I supposed to do?

Josslyn: Walk away. Let her wallow in the misery that she’s created.

Cameron: Look, I know what Esme has done, alright? But I’m sorry, Joss. I-I can’t be that heartless. I’m not wired like that.

Josslyn: Unlike me?

Ava: So, come on. Tell me what’s going on. You said it’s important.

Trina: Well… I just saw Esme at Kelly’s… …crying crocodile tears on Cameron’s shoulder, and he was actually comforting her.

Ava: After everything that little demon has done to you? How dare he?

Trina: Well, he did say she just threw herself in his arms and he just froze.

Ava: Uh-huh. Still, though, it’s a major violation of your friendship. I hope you let him have it.

Trina: But that’s what Esme would want, right? To — to drive a wedge between the three of us?

Ava: Yeah. You’re smart. That’s a good point.

Trina: I mean, it just hurt me so much to see Cam and Esme like that. I could never tell him not to be nice to someone.

Ava: Why not? This is Esme we’re talking about. Why should anybody be nice to her?

Trina: It’s just that every time I see her, it’s like she’s just rubbing it in my face that she’s ruining my life and getting away with it.

Ava: What do you mean every time? H-how often do you see her?

Trina: I mean, she just came here the other night to see Spencer.

Ava: [ Scoffs ] So, Spencer is having little rendezvous with his girlfriend in my gallery when he’s supposed to be making restitution?

Trina: Oh, no. He was definitely surprised to see her. But don’t worry. I kicked her out.

Ava: [ Laughs ] Yeah, you did! Good for you. And as for Cameron, you have every right to feel betrayed.

Trina: Thanks, Ava. You’ve had my back through all of this, and I really appreciate it.

Ava: Of course!

Trina: That’s why I needed to meet. I need your help.

Michael: We’re keeping all of our options open in regards to leadership. Everything — everything’s in the early stages still.

Ned: Realistically, how much would this merger actually dilute Valentin’s shares? Aurora and ELQ are hardly on the same scale.

Drew: Okay, well, we’re in the process of bulking up Aurora so that it will be as much of a merger of equals as possible, Ned.

Ned: Oh. It seems as though the two of you have given this a lot of thought for something that’s still in the early stages.

Drew: I mean, since we both run Aurora, we’ve had the opportunity to discuss this a little bit more, that’s all.

Ned: So I shouldn’t read anything into the fact that I wasn’t a part of any of these discussions?

Willow: Michael started to suspect something was up when there was no record of my birth certificate. When Harmony miraculously obtained a copy… I didn’t ask questions.

Alexis: When you lost your copy, Harmony came to me for help.

Willow: Wait. Does this mean… you’ve known she wasn’t my mother?

Alexis: I have.

Willow: For how long?

Alexis: I…

Willow: No, no. You know what? It — it’s okay. It didn’t matter.

Alexis: E-except it does. You must be so angry. I-I should have said something.

Willow: Well, no, of — of course I’m — I’m angry, but as for you telling me, it wasn’t your place. That was Harmony’s responsibility.

Alexis: I tried to get her to, but she was afraid to lose you. She told me a woman on the commune in Colorado named Joan gave birth to you and then disappeared. And the leader gave you to Harmony for her and your father to raise. They were so worried that Joan would come back for you, they left the commune.

Willow: And do you think any of that story is true?

Nina: I love Wiley, and I deserve to be in his life.

Carly: Loving someone doesn’t entitle you to anything.

Nina: Well, he’s my family. And despite your best effort to discredit me, the judge is gonna see the truth.

Phyllis: Carly. Nina. What a lovely surprise to see you both… together.

Carly: Nina and I are done. I actually I came here to see you.

Phyllis: Then why don’t you join me at the bar while I tend to some business? Nina, will you be sticking around?

Nina: Um…I just — I just need a minute. Excuse me.

Carly: I honestly didn’t come here to get into it with Nina. Okay?

Phyllis: Oh, I believe it. Then what does bring you by?

Carly: You know, it’s been a few weeks since the attempted robbery. I just wanted to check on you, see how you were doing.

Phyllis: Oh, I’m doing well. It’s kind of you to take an interest. Just so you know, you’re always welcome here.

Carly: Thank you. And I don’t…expect you to choose between me and Nina. I mean, I know you’re always gonna protect her.

Phyllis: Well, that’s an instinct that never goes away. Nina was pregnant, in a coma. When someone is as helpless as she was… it’s hard not to care.

Carly: And you got roped into Madeline’s lies… lies that set Nina on a path to destruction.

Trina: Proving my innocence in court isn’t gonna cut it anymore. I need to prove that Esme did this… and make her pay for it.

Ava: I’m in. What can I do?

Trina: Well, Esme is obviously a master schemer. I mean, she blows up your car and now she’s living with you.

Ava: Mm. Don’t remind me.

Trina: When it comes to scheming, I’m clearly out of my depth. But you, on the other hand, are not. In fact, you’re the only person I know that can out-scheme Esme. No offense.

Ava: Eh. None taken. In fact, I’m flattered by your faith in me.

Trina: So tell me — what should I do?

Esme: What the hell are you doing?!

Spencer: Esme? What’s up?

Esme: What are you doing, going through my personal things?

Spencer: I was looking for my sunglasses.

Esme: In a shoe box?!

Spencer: While I was searching, I saw that box, and I thought that it was strange that you had kept shoes that were so out of season.

Esme: You think you know me so well.

Spencer: Don’t I?!

Esme: So, what were you doing? H-h-hoping to borrow dated heels?!

Spencer: I saw the letters… from your nanny Maggie. You told me that you lost contact with her. So why is there an entire box full of her letters?

Cameron: Joss, you’re not heartless. You have one of the biggest hearts of anyone I know. It’s just that you can really hold a grudge.

Josslyn: Only when people deserve it. Like Esme.

Cameron: I’m angry at Esme, too.

Josslyn: Really? Because you seem to be in a very forgiving place with her.

Cameron: Look. I haven’t forgiven Esme for anything. It’s just that… your anger is very fierce, but it’s also proactive. You can’t look at Esme without wanting to start a fight.

Josslyn: My friends and my family are the most important things in the world to me. So when someone hurts them, I can’t just forgive them. Is that so wrong?

Cameron: No. I-I-I think it’s great.

Josslyn: You do?

Cameron: Your ride-or-die loyalty is one of the things I love most about you. And I-I like to think that I’m just that loyal. I just don’t express it in the same way.

Drew: I give you my word, Ned. Michael and my proximity at Aurora is the only reason we’ve had these discussions at all.

Michael: Yeah. Look, when — when it comes time to discuss leadership, you will be informed.

Ned: Informed? Look, Michael, up until a few days ago, I was under the assumption that when we got ELQ back from Valentin that I would be the CEO.

Michael: Yes. Yes, I know.

Ned: So if I’m to have a commensurate position in this new company, I feel like I should be a part of all the discussions.

Michael: I agree, and — and we’ll make sure that you are. It’s just… it’s not that simple.

Alexis: As time went on, Harmony’s story didn’t hold up. Then Brendon showed up in town… and you know the rest.

Willow: There’s still so much we’re not sure about.

Alexis: When Harmony first confided in me, I encouraged her to tell you the truth several times.

Willow: Why didn’t she?

Alexis: S-she was worried you would never forgive her. And if she was willing to kill to keep it a secret, well, suffice it to say, your relationship meant a lot to her.

Willow: I’ve been… leaving room in my mind for the possibility that… none of this is true, that… Harmony had some kind of [Inhales sharply] Break with reality, but… now hearing you talk about how much trouble she went through to hide the truth, it’s — it’s really sinking in. Harmony was lying to me my whole life. I feel like I’ve lost my mother twice. Not to mention my father. Oh, my god. My father. I wonder if he knew what Harmony did.

Phyllis: Madeline kept a lot of secrets. I wish I’d been more discerning.

Carly: Well, I’m sure it brought Nina some comfort knowing that you were there when her baby was welcomed into the world.

Phyllis: Actually, I wasn’t at the birth.

Carly: Oh. I thought you were —

Phyllis: By the time I got to work, the baby had already been born. That’s when Madeline gave the baby to me… to send me to deliver her to her adoptive parents.

Carly: Oh. So you weren’t there when Nelle was born. Do you know who was?

Phyllis: No, I don’t. Why do you ask?

Carly: Nina is petitioning to visit Wiley, so, you know, uh, Nelle’s been on my mind lately.

Phyllis: I didn’t realize it at the time, but there was a huge inheritance at stake. That’s why Madeline gave Nina’s baby away and tried to make sure she couldn’t be traced.

Carly: Well, seems like you’re the only person who knew what was going on because Madeline roped you into it.

Phyllis: The one silver lining is that Nina did eventually find out the truth, even if it was too late.

Carly: Yeah. She blames me for that every chance she gets.

Phyllis: I know better than to try and sway you, but just so you know, I’m rooting for Nina to be able to know her grandson.

Carly: I figured.

Phyllis: Excuse me. Are you alright?

Nina: Yeah, I’m fine. It’s just — I think I’m gonna [Sniffles] I’m gonna go home. It’s gonna be a rough few days, and I… I need to get my head on straight.

Drew: I’m not sure that we can offer you a position commensurate to CEO.

Ned: I see.

Michael: Look, when this merger happens —

Drew: if it even happens.

Michael: Yes. Close to 50% of the company’s assets will be media-based, and that’s not something ELQ has ever had much of a stake in.

[ Cellphone beeps ]

Drew: Look, Ned, we’ve got plenty of time to work this out. All the details, okay? I’m so sorry. I really do have to get going.

Ned: Of course. Yeah. We’ll talk later.

Drew: Hey, trust me. You’re gonna be happy.

Michael: I can tell you’re, uh… pretty uneasy about all this.

Ned: What was your first clue? Michael… can I be honest with you?

Michael: Yeah, of course.

Ned: I have sacrificed a lot for this company. You and I have worked very hard together to regain control of ELQ from Valentin. And now we’re about to get ELQ back, and I feel like I’m being put out to pasture. So just tell me the truth. Am I?

Josslyn: I love everything about you, Cam, and I am so lucky to have you as a boyfriend, and I’m so lucky that you’re such a nice person. But Esme uses nice people, like with that hug.

Cameron: I-I just don’t think that she ran all the way here just so you could catch her.

Josslyn: Okay, maybe not. But the way that she touched your shoulder before leaving, that’s her way of telling me, “Joss, your boyfriend doesn’t mind when I touch him, and there’s nothing that you can do about it.”

Cameron: That’s just not how I see it.

Josslyn: Okay, well, how about Trina’s face before she left? Is being nice to Esme worth that?

Cameron: I just think given some time, Trina will understand where I’m coming from.

Ava: Now, you know your mother would have my head if she knew I was advising you like this.

Trina: If it was about anyone else, maybe. But since it’s Esme, I’m sure she’ll look the other way.

Ava: Mm. I hope so. You know, I do have one idea, but I don’t think you’re gonna like it.

Trina: Try me.

Ava: Well, Esme is a jealous, possessive psychopath. And Spencer — I mean, the one good thing about Spencer is that he knows what a wonderful person you are. I mean, he basically threw her over.

Trina: Except he didn’t. Not really.

Ava: Eh, except he did. That’s why Esme went after you. So take advantage of that jealousy. Goad her into making a mistake and trap her.

Trina: So you’re saying I should make a play for Spencer?

Ava: I mean, nothing overt. Just when you know that Esme is there and she can see a little sigh here and a little tear there, and a “oh, no, nothing’s wrong.” Before you know it, Spencer’s arms will be around you and — and hers will be around his throat.

Trina: [ Sighs ] No. Spencer is back with Esme. He’s not gonna respond to me flirting with him.

Ava: Spencer loves your attention! He will fall for it. And it’ll push Esme just far enough over the edge that she’ll lash out and incriminate herself.

Trina: It’s tempting.

Ava: But?

Trina: [ Chuckles ] I don’t think I can take it that far.

Ava: Hey, Trina, not to put too fine a point on it, but you’re in serious trouble here. I mean, don’t you want to do whatever you can to avoid a trial?

Trina: There is something that could help. Something… that I’ve been keeping to myself. But before I tell you what it is, this is a last resort.

Ava: Understood. What is it?

Esme: I kept all of Maggie’s old letters. Congratulations, Spence. You’ve uncovered my deep, dark secret. I’m sentimental. But please don’t tell anybody! I beg of you!

Spencer: Who would believe me?

Esme: Okay, your turn. Why are you in my room violating my privacy when you’re supposed to be on a grocery run for Kelly’s?

Spencer: I blow off work all the time. You, on the other hand, told me that you lost touch with Maggie long before you met me. But that letter directly indicates otherwise.

Esme: Oh, my god. So I reached out to Maggie a couple of times over the years. Why am I the one being interrogated when you’re the one who’s going through my stuff? I thought we were rebuilding our relationship.

Spencer: Esme, we are.

Esme: Really? Because it feels like you still don’t trust me.

Spencer: I feel like it’s the other way around.

Esme: Wait, what?

Spencer: Well, it’s just that lately I’ve been feeling like you don’t trust me.

Esme: Of course I trust you! Though you’re giving me plenty of reasons not to.

Spencer: Such as?

Esme: Going through my things. When you found that box, exactly what did you think you’d find inside?

Spencer: Esme, honestly, I don’t know what I was looking for. I just feel that I don’t know you as well as I thought. And I wanted to find out what I didn’t know.

Esme: Why not just ask me? I mean, we used to talk about everything. If we’re gonna get bach to what we had, then we need to be honest about everything. Completely transparent.

Spencer: I agree. Why don’t we start with this? [ Clears throat ] Why did Maggie write, “No good from you having contact with your father?”

Trina: If I use what I know, there’ll be collateral damage. I don’t want anyone getting hurt except Esme.

Ava: So this secret weapon…it could set you free?

Trina: It’s not a slam dunk, but it might be my best shot. And I’ll use it if I have to. I’d just rather not.

Ava: So you don’t want to flirt with Spencer, and you don’t want to use this ace in the hole because somebody else might get hurt.

Trina: Yeah.

Ava: Hmm

Trina: [ Sighs ] I may be an even worse schemer than I thought.

Ava: Hmm. You’re pretty terrible at it. But you know what? I’m proud of you for that.

Trina: Why? It’s embarrassing.

Ava: ‘Cause, you’re a good person. You don’t go to Esme’s level, or mine.

Trina: Ava…

Ava: Hey, don’t–I’m not ashamed of my level. Hardly. And I’m proud to be your go-to schemer. And listen to me. If you ever find yourself trapped into doing something that you don’t want to do, come to me and we will figure out another way to get Esme.

Trina: Thanks, Ava. I’m so glad to have you in my corner.

Cameron: We’re just…very different people.

Josslyn: Well, I think that our differences have always made us stronger as friends and as a couple.

Cameron: Right. And just so you know, I love everything that makes you you.

Josslyn: I feel the same way about you. I mean, obviously, I don’t love how nice you can be to Esme. She doesn’t deserve it.

Cameron: I-It’s less about being nice and more…me not wanting to escalate things.

Josslyn: Okay. So… we’ll just agree to disagree.

Cameron: Not the first time, and definitely won’t be the last.

Josslyn: It’s just… this is about our different approaches to conflict, right?

Cameron: What else would it be? I have to get back to work, but… we’re cool, right?

Josslyn: Yeah, we’re fine.

Michael: Look, I understand your concern, but nobody’s trying to drive you out.

Ned: I sense a “but.”

Michael: Look, objectively, this merger is the best option to ensure that our family maintains control of ELQ again.

Ned: Mm. Objectively.

Michael: Nothing has been decided. Okay, we’re still leaving the door open to all possibilities, and you’ll have an active part in the discussions of how to move forward. Okay? So, hey, try not to worry too much.

Ned: Sure. Anything for the family.

Michael: Okay.

Alexis: I’m so sorry, but Harmony never mentioned your father. I guess we’ll never know. It’s late. I should go.

Willow: Well, um, thank you for – for coming by and trying to… make things better.

Alexis: For whatever good it did. Any idea what’s next for you?

Willow: I need answers. I need to know where I came from and who my biological parents are. The first step is… getting that DNA test at the PCPD. Because bringing the truth to light… it’s the only way to heal.

Nina: Thank you, Phyllis. As always.

Phyllis: Of course. You know I always have your back.

Michael: Willow’s been through the wringer. Can the DNA test wait?

Phyllis: Call me tomorrow.
