Victor: Thank you. It’s not often that I’m invited to what used to be enemy territory.

Summer: There’s a lot less bad blood between the families than there used to be.

Victor: Yeah, well, I think that has a lot to do with the two of you.

Summer: I like to think so.

Victor: So, is my grandson around?

Summer: I love hearing you call him that.

Kyle: Harrison is on the way to the park with his nanny.

Victor: Ah.

Summer: We didn’t want him to overhear any of this grown-up talk.

Victor: Uh-huh. Grown-up talk — does that mean we’re gonna have a conversation about ashland locke?

Kyle: That’s right. And we’ve come to a decision about how to handle him.

Jack: I think we ought to go on a trip.

Phyllis: What’d you have in mind?

Jack: I don’t know. What do you feel like doing? Sitting on a beach? Climbing a mountain? Shopping all day?

Phyllis: All three sound great.

Jack: That’s my red. Give her three viable options, she’ll choose all three.

Phyllis: Have you noticed that I can really laugh at myself lately?

Jack: I have noticed that.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Jack: I also noticed you’ve been laughing a lot today.

Phyllis: I know. I have. You know why?

Jack: Why?

Phyllis: Because I’m not distracted by that woman who shall remain nameless. And it is a good day. It’s a very good day because, you know, all distractions are gone and I’m not thinking of that woman.

Jack: So, where do we go on this trip? Iceland? Tokyo? Madrid?

Diane: [ Laughs ] Look at you two! Like a couple of teenagers. Or was all that sloppy kissing for my benefit?

Jack: What are you talking about?

Kyle: We’ve given your suggestion about ashland a lot of thought, and we’ve come to a decision.

Summer: We’ve realized if we were headed right back to milan this wouldn’t be such an urgent situation.

Kyle: But we’re planning on staying in genoa city longer than we thought…

Victor: Good. That way, ashland locke has no one here to relate to anymore. That means he will finally get out of town.

Kyle: I’m not making this decision out of revenge.

Victor: I understand.

Summer: Ashland leaving town is just a fringe benefit.

Victor: I already had michael baldwin draw up the papers.

Summer: Very efficient.

Victor: He’s filing a restraining order against ashland locke, and he will send it in as soon as I tell him to. And then all we need is the judge’s signature, and you have all that done before dinner.

Kyle: Let’s slow down. Before we make a move against ashland, we need to prepare harrison for what’s about to happen.

Ashland: [ Sighs heavily ]

Adam: So, is this like your office now? I mean, might as well be. There’s nowhere else to go. You could just get your mail forwarded here. Maybe you could ask abby, put a sign out front — “ashland locke world headquarters.”

Ashland: Don’t you have someplace else to be?

Adam: Just waiting for my food.

Ashland: Could you possibly wait somewhere else?

Adam: I could, but someone would come in here and take my seat because there’s a long line outside, people waiting to come in here and insult you. I actually had to take a number. Man, people really don’t like you in this town.

Ashland: You actually sound jealous.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] How do you figure that?

Ashland: Well, before i slipped up, you were the town pariah. I get the sense that you miss all those people hating you. Because if they don’t hate you, then they’re probably not actually paying attention to you at all.

Adam: Well, touché. But I did get back on the radar of all the people that matter to me when I maneuvered you out of the family business.

Ashland: Really? So, what exactly have the newmans done for you to say thank you? Anything at all?

Adam: That is none of your concern.

Ashland: Well, I’ve been out of the loop for a while, but it seems to me you’re in exactly the same position you were before you came up with your brilliant scheme to give me half a billion dollars.

Adam: Whereas you lost your company and your wife. So knowing that you’re suffering is all the reward that I need. And, hey, I would drink to your health, but I know it’s a sensitive subject. But seriously, all joking aside, why are you still here? I mean, I always thought it was my best revenge to stick around and make all the people face me.

Ashland: Revenge isn’t what’s keeping me here.

Adam: Oh. Please don’t tell me you’re sticking around because of love. Ugh, that is so gross. Besides, you’re a little late.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] What do you mean?

Adam: Haven’t you heard? Victoria left town. She abandoned her duties at newman and she went to some spa in the swiss alps to, uh, clear her head and nurse her pathetic broken heart.

Ashland: I’m sure victoria has not abandoned anything. She’s still in charge. She always will be. So don’t get any ideas, hmm?

Jack: So, you’ve come to think of yourself as some kind of cupid?

Diane: Well, I’m just pointing out that I show up in town and everyone starts falling in love, like you two. The timing is uncanny.

Jack: You know, it’s funny. I think when most people in this town think of you, the first word that comes to mind isn’t “love.”

Phyllis: That’s true, diane. I have a couple choice words that I could associate with you.

[ Cellphone vibrating ]

Jack: I got to take this. Um, you want to go back to the hotel?

Phyllis: No. It’s such a great day. I’ll wait for you.

Jack: Play nice.

Phyllis: [ Laughs ]

Diane: He knows you so well. It’s so cute.

Ashland: Yeah, but she’s gonna come back soon, I would imagine. She’s not gonna stay away forever. She’s probably just working remotely right now. And newman, by the way, has thrived under her leadership.

Ashland: She is. This company has a strong foundation. It’s in a good position to move forward in the future, except, of course — I’m sorry — for the media division.

Adam: Newman media?

Ashland: Yeah.

Adam: Oh, wait a second. That’s my division. Why am I not surprised that you would think that’s the weak link?

Ashland: Oh, I’m sorry. I just assumed you knew that chancellor and hamilton-winters are merging, and they’re all set to just wipe newman media off the face of the earth, I mean, especially ’cause you’re making these terrible decisions, like appointing your girlfriend coo. Oh, you got your hands full with that one, by the way.

Adam: You do her a disservice by calling her my girlfriend. She’s much more than that.

Ashland: Mm.

Adam: She’s a force of nature, and the world will soon discover that.

Ashland: [ Laughs ] Well, you know what else is a force of nature? An erupting volcano. I wouldn’t appoint one coo.

Adam: That is a good one. I’ve always found you entertaining, locke.

Ashland: Mm.

Adam: Like when you pretended to cough up a lung to get my sister to like you. That was quite a spectacle. You know, in the beginning, i was really rooting for you and victoria. I thought it made sense. You both are workaholics. And, you know, given her intense daddy issues, it made sense why she would be drawn to a megalomaniac older man with a checkered past.

Ashland: Mm, says the man who spent his entire adult life alternating between trying to lash out at his father and trying to win his father’s approval.

Adam: Well, of course i didn’t realize that your relationship with my sister was based on a lie. And I will grudgingly give you credit to committing to the bit. Your performance was quite impressive. You know, maybe now, since your business career has hit the skids, you could head out to hollywood and you could try to make it as an actor.

Ashland: Oh, god, no. No, I don’t think so. Look, it’s obvious you’re just trying everything you can to get me to leave town. Give up, okay? I’m not going anywhere.

Adam: I’m just trying to spare you the humiliation of having victoria reject you again.

Ashland: No, you see, I’m beginning to wonder if you’re trying to get me to leave genoa city before victoria gets back because you’re afraid the opposite might happen, that she might actually take me back.

Adam: No. No. I think you had a chance to work things out a few weeks ago, but, uh, now she’s fled the country. You should take that as a hint. You are never going to get her to forgive you.

Ashland: Watch me.

Kyle: I don’t want to rush into this. I worry about how the restraining order will affect harrison.

Summer: Of course. We’ll be sensitive to his feelings, just like we discussed.

Kyle: But completely removing ashland from his life — I don’t know how he’ll react. He still has an attachment to ashland. He’s been asking about him. And the little boy — he’s had so much upheaval in his young life. Look, I don’t want to rush into this. It will cause him great distress ripping away another member of his family.

Victor: Kyle, I understand, okay? This is a tough balancing act. But you must remember that ashland locke brought this all onto himself. He’s desperate. He’s lashing out. I don’t want him to use harrison as a pawn.

Kyle: You think that’s a real possibility?

Victor: Yeah, I do.

Summer: I agree. We know what ashland is capable of now, such hideous and hurtful lies.

Victor: We can come up with some story explaining why ashland locke had to leave town suddenly.

Summer: I think it’s for the best, kyle. Remember how harrison was when we first moved to milan? He missed his mom and his father, but we comforted him. He knew that he was loved, and he came out of it.

Kyle: I see the logic. It’s just going to be hard.

Summer: Ashland has already discussed bringing in lawyers. We should probably beat him to the punch.

Victor: We should indeed.

Kyle: We handle this with great care to minimize harrison’s upset. There’s no point in putting it off so we can spare his pain in the future. There’s no reason to put off the inevitable, so let’s just tell michael to move forward with the restraining order.

Victor: Good. I agree with you. Now… once your mother finds out that the two of you are not moving back to milan, she’s gonna cause problems. I can have michael baldwin drop some papers, you know, issue the same restraining order against her.

Diane: You seem a little worked up, phyllis. Are you okay?

Phyllis: No. No, I am not okay. You seem to think that you and jack and kyle and harrison are a package deal. I think you’ve forgotten something.

Diane: What’s that?

Phyllis: Jack hates you.

Diane: Oh, I think you’re overstating it.

Phyllis: No. Jack hates you. With the great white heat of a thousand suns, he hates you. He puts up a front when kyle is around, but when kyle’s gone, wow. It’s shocking to me how much jack hates you.

Diane: Well, I think it’s flattering how intense jack’s feelings are for me. You know what that means. We have such history, some bad, but most of it good.

Jack: Everything okay here?

Phyllis: It’s great. Yeah, it’s really good. Hey, I have an idea.

Jack: Oh? What’s that?

Phyllis: Yeah. Well, I mean, we had such a great celebration outside with our picnic. Um, let’s bring our celebration indoors. How about that?

Jack: Uh-huh.

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ]

Diane: [ Sighs ] Damn it, phyllis.

Jack: Um, this is what you had in mind?

Phyllis: Yes, this is what i had in mind. I’ve been thinking about this all day.

Jack: Yeah?

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. Oh, I’m so positive. I fe so positive.

Jack: Yeah, so am I.

Phyllis: Mmm. Good.

[ Sighs ] And you know what? I trace back my positivity to when we made love. That’s why I feel like this. We took it slow. We took it slow, but now… this is where we are. And we deserve this, jack.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] No. I mean, maybe diane coming into town pushed me towards you, made me see what was really there. You know what I mean? But that’s it. Made me realize… that I want you. You are the endgame. We are the endgame.

Jack: Okay.

Kyle: I don’t need a restraining order against my mother. She is family to me. We had a strong bond when I was a kid, a foundation to build on, but my relationship with ashland is rocky at best. My mother has respected my decisions and followed my lead when it comes to harrison, but we don’t know what ashland will do.

Victor: That’s fair.

Kyle: And ashland’s lies were aggressive. He was trying to get his hands on your company.

Victor: Hmm.

Kyle: When my mother faked her death, I came to realize it was defensive. There were forces out there she was trying to protect herself from.

[ Breathes deeply ] I know that I’m not harrison’s biological mother. But I am going to protect that boy with all that I have. Right now, ashland has a right to see harrison. You signed a document agreeing to that. We have to get rid of that document. If ashland goes to court demanding to see him, we can’t have that happen. This is the first step in stopping that. We can’t let ashland put any more lies or poison in his head.

Victor: Then do it! Do your own podcast. Create your own streaming platform out of here, out of this office. This is your domain.

Adam: Sure. Sure. I can initiate a project like that. Then victoria’s gonna come home and she’s gonna shut it down because it’s my idea.

Victor: Make it so damn profitable that she can’T.

Victor: Good. I know this is very frustrating for you. I understand that. But you have got to know that ashland locke is now out of victoria’s life. He’ll soon be out of town. And victoria will move on. And things will get back to normal.

Victor: And I told kyle and summer to make sure that he doesn’t get near the boy.

Adam: Can they do that legally? I thought ashland’s name was on the birth certificate. I assume that gives him some rights.

Victor: I told them to get a restraining order.

Adam: Locke has a lot of expensive lawyers at his disposal. He could fight it.

Victor: Oh, yeah? Think about it for a moment. Do you think he wants his cancer scam to become public knowledge and public record?

Adam: You are definitely playing hard ball. But you’ve always had a soft spot for kids. I mean, this is coming at harrison’s expense.

Victor: That kid will be much better off without locke filling his head with lies.

Adam: I suppose.

Victor: Without that little boy, there’s not a damn reason for ashland locke to stay in town, okay?

Ashland: This is a joke. Michael, you are a joke.

Michael: I’ve been called worse.

Ashland: My lawyers will chew you up and spit you out. This restraining order you are talking about — it will end up in the trash.

Michael: Oh, well, we look forward to hearing your counterarguments in court. I personally am going to enjoy hearing you explain to the judge that you lied to an innocent young child about your illness and your impending death and your entirely stolen identity.

Ashland: Kyle, this is unfair, not just to me, but to harrison. You are punishing harrison for the deeply regretted mistakes of his father.

Kyle: We are protecting harrison.

Ashland: From me?

Kyle: That’s right.

Ashland: I have done nothing but look out for that boy. I could have made a scene just now. I could have demanded time with him, which I am entitled to, but I didn’t do that because i didn’t want him to get upset.

Kyle: No, you told him you were dying. That was upsetting to him.

Ashland: Which I deeply regret and I’ve apologized for.

Kyle: Okay, you know, enough! I don’t want you anywhere near my son ever, and if you really love him, want to protect him from heartache, you will leave.

Ashland: I just want to spend some time with him.

Kyle: No, I have made up my mind! It’s best if harrison doesn’t think you’re in town ignoring him. We’ll tell him a story or something.

Ashland: [ Scoffs ]

Kyle: But either way, you will be gone.

Ashland: This is monstrous.

Kyle: No, ashland. You are.

Jack: Ah.

Diane: Maybe I’m not jack’s favorite person right now, but i remember times he couldn’t tolerate you. Apparently, he got over that.

Phyllis: Well, he just did a lot of tolerating of me upstairs just now.

Diane: Ugh! What do you want? A trophy? A standing ovation? “Best sex in the afternoon”?

Phyllis: Yeah, yeah, I want a medal right here. Right here is where I want my medal.

Diane: Oh, well, then congratulations on your tacky display. You practically jumped on the desk and waved your bra in the air — “we did it! Jack and I had sex upstairs!” Well done.

[ Scoffs ] But is that really such an accomplishment for you? Frankly, when I heard you bought a hotel, I thought you’d name it something closer to home than the “grand phoenix,” something like “quickie inn” or “bedpost notches.”

Phyllis: Okay, you know jack is more than a bedpost notch for me.

Diane: Do I?

[ Chuckles ] All kidding aside, we both know why you’re making such a show of this, taking a victory lap. It’s because this moment is probably the closest you’ll ever get to happiness. Deep down, you know that you and jack won’t last. This time won’t be any different than all the others, phyllis. You can get them into bed, but you can’t keep them.

Phyllis: Let me tell you — yeah, yeah, I accelerated my relationship with jack to throw it in your face. Who cares? Who cares? It proved my point because jack and I have a deep, connected relationship, something, diane, you will never, ever have! So, yeah, I was marking my territory, and you know what? It feels good!

Devon: Hey, hey!

Abby: Hey! Mwah. Dominic is so excited about spending a few days with you guys.

Devon: Oh, he can’t be as excited as I am.

Amanda: No, no, devon has been like a 5-year-old on christmas morning. He woke up early just to make sure that dom had everything that he needed.

Devon: That’s right, I did. I missed you, buddy. I did. Ready to have a good time? You’re gonna love these new books I got for him.

Abby: Ooh.

Amanda: Oh, my gosh, he’s growing by the minute. I can’t get over how big he is.

Abby: Stronger, too. I mean, he’s developed quite an arm. You would not believe how far he can throw his breakfast food. I find cereal all over the place.

Devon: Oh, boy. No. I got to learn how to duck now.

Abby: [ Laughs ] Thinking about getting a dog to follow him around and clean up all his scraps.

[ Laughter ]

Devon: No. Well, I’ve been warned, but we’re gonna try and eat more than we throw when you’re here, okay?

Abby: Well, he has a very healthy appetite and he’s sleeping really well, too.

Devon: That’s great. Those are all signs that he’s made a full recovery.

Abby: Yeah, yeah. You know, his follow-up appointment is coming soon, but his doctors have been following his progress very closely since his bone marrow transplant, and they say he’s doing great.

Devon: That’s wonderful.

Abby: Thank god.

Devon: Yeah. We have a very resilient little boy, huh?

Abby: Yeah. He’s perfect, isn’t he?

Devon: Well, I’m not biased or anything.

Abby: [ Laughs ] Hi.

Nick: Hey.

Sharon: Hey, nick. Um…can I get you coffee?

Nick: No, I’m good, thanks. Just glad to see you smiling. I wasn’t sure you’d be working. I thought maybe you’d want some downtime after the wedding.

Sharon: No, I prefer to stay busy, just helps me keep my mind focused on the positive. But with ashland locke and diane jenkins traipsing through here, I’ve certainly had a lot of diversions.

Nick: And just one of them is a handful. How did it go?

Sharon: Um, I’d prefer not to get into the details, but I got a lot off my chest, and I said what was on my mind, and, you know, it was — it was fine. I’m fine.

Chance: Hey, nick.

Nick: Hey, what’s up, man?

Chance: How you doing?

Nick: Good.

Chance: Hi, sharon.

Sharon: Hey.

Chance: Hey, I was hoping i could talk to you for a few minutes. That is, if I’m not interrupting anything important.

Sharon: Uh, no, no, not at all.

Nick: Yeah, no, it’s cool.

Chance: Thank you.

Elena: [ Sighs ]

Nate: Hey.

Elena: Hey.

Nate: I was hoping I’d get to see you before I left.

Elena: Mm.

Nate: How was work?

Elena: Hmm, good, but I am exhausted.

Nate: Mm.

Elena: [ Chuckles ]

Nate: Those all-night shifts can be tough, and you’ve been doing a lot more than usual lately.

Elena: Yeah, you’ve been working pretty long hours, too. You know, I thought we’d be able to spend more time together when you changed careers. But with the chancellor-winters launch, doesn’t seem like that’s gonna be for a while.

Nate: We’re gonna have to work a lot harder to carve out some alone time for just us.

Elena: Sounds like a plan.

Nate: Hey, why don’t we schedule a date night this weekend? Something special, romantic, sexy.

Elena: This weekend?

[ Chuckles ] That sounds good. I’ll see you then.

Nate: You know what? My coffee run can wait. Why don’t I stick around for a little longer?

Elena: No, no. I don’t want to slow down chancellor-winter’s newest coo. Besides, I think I really need to take a nap.

Nate: Okay. Well, I’ll let you get some rest, and I will try to come back and see you before your next shift.

Elena: Okay.

Nate: Okay.

Elena: [ Sighs ]

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Chance: So, again, I just have to congratulate you on the wedding. It was truly an amazing day.

Sharon: Oh, it really was wonderful, wasn’t it? You know, things actually went even better than I hoped. So thank you for being there. I’m really glad that you and abby could share that with us.

Chance: Absolutely. Did you ever hit the dance floor?

Sharon: No. It just didn’t seem right.

Chance: I understand.

Sharon: Well, hopefully, one day soon, I’ll get to the point where I find that doing things that remind me of rey bring me joy.

Chance: The other day, one of my teammates that was in spain with me, his wife called me. And I was actually happy to talk to her. And this feels weird telling this to a therapist, but eventually things do get better.

Sharon: Thank you. That means a lot, coming from you. I know that you’ve been through a lot.

Chance: So how are you? I know with the funeral and the wedding back-to-back, I’m sure you haven’t had a moment to just sit and process everything. I know when things get quieter, that’s when the hard part begins.

Sharon: That is when the hard part begins. Um…I’m not gonna deny that it’s — it’s been really tough. But I have a lot of people around me who love me and support me and I can lean on them.

Chance: I hope you know that includes abby and I. Anything you need, really.

Sharon: Thank you. And, you know, I meant to thank you for organizing the gcpd memorial for rey. That was — that was really nice to see how many people love him and admire him.

Chance: Well, he is sorely missed in the department, I’ll tell you. And everyone down there, we care about you, sharon. We understand this was very sudden, and, well, we just can’t help but worry.

Sharon: Well, please tell them not to worry about me. You know, rey’s spirit is with me all the time. I feel it guiding me, supporting me. But what about you? You lost your friend and your partner. How are you doing?

Chance: I’m okay. I’m okay. And just like you, I feel him with me, watching over me. Hopefully not judging my detective skills.

Sharon: [ Chuckles ] Of course not. He really admired you, and he would be thrilled to know how well you’re doing now at home and at work.

Chance: I hope so.

Sharon: Oh, yeah. You know, even though you’ve been through some really hard times, rey, he always believed that things would turn around for you. He was just an optimist at heart. And even though he’s witnessed a lot of wrong in the world, he just never gave up belief in love and basic decency of people.

Chance: Yeah, I know. I know, and I’m trying to do the same. I’m working on closing all of rey’s cases, by the way. A way to pay tribute. I’m actually headed back to the station now to follow up on some new evidence for one case. Forensics has the analysis, and I am determined to wrap it up.

Sharon: Well, that’s a really, really nice way to honor rey.

Devon: So since nate and billy will be here soon for the meeting, I’m gonna keep an ear out in case dominic wakes up.

Amanda: You gonna work from home?

Devon: I am gonna work from home. It’s the boss’ prerogative.

Amanda: Yeah, I guess so. You know, speaking of work, how has the dynamic been? Running things with your cousin, your sister, your sister’s boyfriend.

Devon: Well, you’ve seen how well we’re doing.

Amanda: Mm-hmm, I have, but you haven’t talked about how it makes you feel.

Devon: I feel it’s great.

Amanda: Yeah?

Devon: Yeah, it’s gonna take a little bit of getting used to, just ’cause, for so long, I was the only one making decisions for my company. Now it’s a whole committee where we all have to sign off on everything.

Amanda: It will be an adjustment.

Devon: Mm-hmm. I’m not complaining, though. It’s just gonna take a little time to settle in.

Amanda: Yeah. You know, I’m kind of going through the same thing.

Devon: You are?

Amanda: With imani.

Devon: Hmm.

Amanda: I mean, I love her, but it’s been a little tricky having my sister report to me, take direction from me, especially when I know that she would rather that we were on equal footing.

Devon: I can see how that could dicey for you guys.

Amanda: I do think that it’s partially because, when we started our own firm, we were supposed to be partners, you know?

Devon: Huh. Well, at least at the end of the day, we’re all family, and that should make things a little easier, right?

Amanda: Yeah, sure. If you say so.

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Imani: Nate, fancy meeting you here.

Nate: Hey. Just grabbing an espresso before my meeting with devon and billy.

Imani: Oh, I have a feeling you’d be at the top of your game with or without that jolt of caffeine. But before you run off, there’s something I wanted to just share with you.

Nate: Okay, what’s that?

Imani: I was reviewing the legal aspects of your proposal, and I was really impressed by your suggestions. For someone just switching from the medical field to business, you really are breezing. And I mean that in the best way. I admire forward thinkers.

Nate: Thank you.

[ Chuckles ] That’s quite the compliment.

Imani: I hope devon begins to recognize the value you bring to the table. Between us, I think amanda and devon are a bit too conservative.

Nate: I’m just doing my best. There’s a lot I can learn from my cousin.

Imani: Mm-hmm.

Nate: Obviously he’s been doing this a lot longer than i have. Well, I’m sure you feel the same way about working with amanda, even when you don’t see eye-to-eye.

Imani: That’s true. However, sometimes what’s needed are fresh ideas. New energy. You and I seem to have that. Why not flaunt it, fight for what we want? What’s the worst that can happen?

[ Door opens ]

Nate: I think it’s a really good idea, but we just need to fine-tune some of the details.

Imani: Well, if the concept is sound, the details work themselves out.

Nate: That’s not the way i work.

Imani: Okay, so tell me, how do you like to get things done?

Nate: Well, I like to take a more analytical approach, break down all the steps, then come up with a plan.

Imani: Hmm. I’m more of a visual learner, so I think you should show me.

Nate: Hey, hey, wait. Where do you think you’re going?

Imani: I do my best thinking in the shower. Come on, you should try it.

Elena: Hello! I’m right here. Hi, I’m karen.

Diane: Hello, abby.

Abby: [ Sighs ] May I ask what you’re doing here? And by that, why did you choose my restaurant when there are so many others to choose from?

Diane: Because your restaurant is one of the best in town. Can’t we be adults about this?

Abby: Of course. Are you meeting someone?

Diane: No, I’ll be dining alone.

Abby: [ Laughs ] What a surprise.

Diane: Oh, I really don’t mind being a party of one these days, since I’ll have plenty of time for socializing later.

Abby: Okay, I’ll bite. Explain.

Diane: I’m planning on staying in genoa city for a while longer. Kyle wanted me to stick around so we could spend more time together and work on rebuilding our relationship.

Abby: I can’t say I’m surprised, given his reaction to your return. But sadly, I think he’ll come to regret that decision.

Diane: I assure you he won’T. I’ll make sure of it. But I can understand why you and everyone else in town will view everything I do through a negative lens.

Abby: Well, I’m glad you realize that.

Diane: Yeah, so let me get ahead of one story before I’m wrongly judged.

Abby: Ooh, do tell.

Diane: I’ve relocated to the athletic club indefinitely, with kyle’s financial support. He insisted. Best to be upfront about this because I’m sure, once everybody finds out about kyle’s generosity, they’ll assume that I had my hand out, which I did not.

Abby: You really do think everything is all about you, don’t you? That we all just walk around here, wasting our time and energy wondering what your next move is gonna be, your motivation. But, see, you’re wrong. We don’T. We just think you’re a terrible person. If we bother to think about you at all.

Imani: Elena, over here. Hey.

Elena: Imani, how’s it going?

Imani: Good. Why are you looking at me like that?

Elena: Nothing, I just didn’t expect to see you here, you know, in the middle of a work daY.

Imani: Oh, I — I just wanted a break from the officE. Please join me.

Elena: I was actually gonna get something to go, but you know what? Since you asked, maybe I will. One sec.

Devon: I wish lily didn’t have to go out of town to meet with jill since chancellor-winters launch is just a week away.

Billy: Yeah, I hear you, but I’ll fill her in on everything we talk about.

Devon: Good. Where do we stand?

Billy: Well, we’re in a good place. Logistics are all taken care of. Put out another press release in order to build on the publicity that we got. The next few days, we’ll push a little bit more, create even more buzz.

Devon: Good. That sounds great.

Billy: You should be prepared to do a couple interviews, of course, solo and with lily.

Devon: Oh, for sure, yeah, I’m ready to do anything.

Nate: Hope you both had a chance to review the material i e-mailed to you last night. My thoughts on some of the future ventures I thought you might want to announce at the event.

Billy: Yeah, I was able to look at it.

Devon: I did, too, and i think it’s just a bit much.

Nate: You think it’s best to pull back?

Devon: I do, yeah. It’s just ’cause I think what you’re suggesting is a little premature. I don’t think the best strategy for a launch is to reveal everything we’re doing before we even get out the gate, you know? (Dog barking) we love our pets.

Sharon: That’s such a nice gesture, taking over all of rey’s cases. Chance is carrying rey in his heart with him, just like I am.

Nick: The people we lose never really leave us. Um…can I ask you about something? A couple days ago, it was cassie’s anniversary. Normally, we get together and we take some flowers to the cemetery. And we just talk, you know? We — we remember all the amazing memories of our sweet little girl.

Sharon: But we didn’T.

Nick: No. I wanted to make sure I gave you space, you know? I tried to follow your cues, but I don’t think I can wait any longer, sharon. The fact that you haven’t brought it up yet, I’m worried that this is affecting you more than I expected.

Diane: You’re entitled to your feelings, and they’re certainly justified, given what I put you through in the past.

Abby: I appreciate you acknowledging that.

Diane: I am truly sorry.

Abby: I hope you don’t think this “too little, too late” apology is gonna earn brownie points with me, because my opinion of you is never gonna change.

Diane: I’m not expecting it to. Nor do I expect you to hide your hostility from me if we cross paths. But please, for kyle’s sake, could you just put his feelings ahead of your own? I am only here because that’s what he wants.

Abby: I have no intention of making this painful situation any more difficult for kyle, especially after all the hurt that you’ve put him through. So, yes, I will restrain myself in his presence.

Diane: Thank you for that.

Abby: But when it’s just the two of us, I will be as hostile as I want for as long as I want. So now that we understand each other, would you still like that table for one? Or would you like to turn around and walk right back out the door?

Nate: I thought we decided that the launch event would be the perfect venue to establish our goals for the future.

Devon: You’re absolutely right about that. It is, and that’s what we’re doing. I’m just talking about holding back and teasing what we have in the works.

Nate: I think bold and open is the way to go.

Devon: The last thing we want to do is give our competition the ability to get ahead of us, right?

Nate: But this is a huge merger, devon. People are gonna be curious about our plans.

Devon: That’s fantastic. Let them be curious. That’s the point.

Nate: Don’t you think we should take full advantage of this moment? We’re gonna have the attention from the business community and the press.

Billy: Yeah, no, I understand what you’re saying here, nate, I do, but devon’s right. I mean, what you’re suggesting, it’s just too much. It would lessen the impact of everything across the board. Best way to do this is we roll out one project at a time so everything gets enough attention. Of course, maybe there’s a happy medium?

Devon: What do you suggest?

Billy: Well, I think nate’s right, it would be beneficial to announce something. You know, maybe we can talk about the two projects that you and lily are most excited about, build some momentum from there, and tease that there’s more where that came from.

Devon: Right. Yeah, that — that sounds okay to me. Is that alright with you?

Nate: I’m on board. Sounds like the perfect compromise to me.

Devon: Okay, then. That’s what we’ll do. I will have a talk with lily and we’ll figure out what initiatives we want to lead with, and we’ll go from there.

Billy: Sounds good.

Devon: Yep.

Elena: So how are you liking your new job? Do you feel like you’re fitting in with chancellor-winters?

Imani: There’s a learning curve, of course, but there’s such a strong sense of unity and teamwork.

Elena: Oh, the beauty of working with family.

Imani: Exactly, everyone’s working toward one common goal. So much potential for the future. Can’t wait to see where it all leads.

Elena: Yeah, I can’t either. And I’m excited to be by nate’s side every step of the way.

Amanda: Hi, guys. Do you mind if I join you?

Imani: Not at all. This is getting to be a regular thing, the three of us all hanging out together.

Elena: Oh, I wouldn’t go that far.

Amanda: Well, you know, elena, I am really happy that i ran into you. We are so appreciative of how kind you were when we were concerned about our mother’s health condition. Thank you so much. You are such a gem. You totally eased our worries.

Imani: Yeah, that was so kind of you. Since nate has joined the corporate world, we’re lucky to still have a doctor in our extended family.

Elena: Well, I am happy to help anytime. Um…yeah, I hope you will both excuse me, but I’m gonna get going. Amanda, it was good to see you.

Amanda: Nice to see you, too.

Imani: I said I understand. What’s the problem?

Amanda: I think it’s pretty clear what the problem is, and you know it. Oh. Oh, my gosh.

Imani: What? What’s wrong?

Amanda: I forgot my flash drive at home.

[ Sighs ] It has all the documents that i need. You know what? I’m gonna go back home. I’ll meet you at the office. But please, please take to heart what I said about nate.

Imani: [ Sighs ]

Amanda: I do not want to be having this conversation again.

Imani: I don’t either.

[ Chuckles ] Okay, I swear I’m not trying to give you a migraine. I’m just having some fun. You need to relax. I promise you I have no agenda as far as it comes to nate.

Amanda: Okay.

Billy: You look distracted.

Abby: The nerve of that woman to show up at my restaurant even though she knows I loathe her, and I truly loathe her.

Billy: Yeah, no, that’s very clear.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Billy: You know, diane gets under the skin of most people.

Abby: I thought she’d be gone by now, but kyle has decided to give her another chance.

Billy: Really?

Abby: Yeah, he put her up at the gcac. He’s even footing the bill.

Billy: Oh, family’s gonna love that.

Abby: Mm.

Billy: Well, hopefully they can respect kyle’s choice. I mean, at the end of the day, that is his mother. It seems like we’re just gonna have to get used to having diane around.

Abby: Fat chance.

Billy: Maybe she’s changed, right? Maybe, just maybe, she’ll surprise us. It’s possible.

Abby: You know, billy, I get that you’re in the second-chance camp, you know, and you’re more than willing to give people the benefit of the doubt, and i understand why, but I really do think that you are giving her more credit than she deserves.

Billy: Yeah, maybe. Maybe not. But we’re gonna see. And if I’m wrong, then I’ll own it.

[ Telephone rings ]

Abby: Society. Hi, yes, you’d like to make a reservation? Let me see what we got for you.

Diane: Oh, great, more abbott attitude to go with my lunch.

Billy: No, lucky for you, i am fresh out of attitude. I do have one question, though.

Diane: I’m almost afraid to hear it.

Billy: Is this seat taken?

Sharon: When I woke up on the morning of the anniversary, cassie was the first thought on my mind. And every year on that day, memories come flooding back to me. Happy moments, sad moments, and my anger over the way that she died.

[ Sighs ] And something occurred to me. She has now been gone longer than she was with us. How did that happen?

Nick: Still feels like it was yesterday.

Sharon: And then I looked over to the other side of the bed where rey should be laying, and, um…you know, it was just too much. All the sadness and the loss and pain. I felt like I was gonna lose it. So I, uh…I tried to compartmentalize my grief so that I wouldn’t end up having to stay in bed all day, paralyzed, because that’s the last thing that I wanted to do, and it’s the last thing that cassie would want me to do. I forced myself to get out of bed and get moving. I know that I didn’t bring it up. I decided not to talk about the anniversary because if I did…

Nick: I completely understand.

Sharon: All I could do was just focus on getting through that day, that one day. And, um…the next morning, when I woke up, I felt like I had gotten through the deepest, darkest part of it, and I knew that I could — I could keep going. I could go on.

Nick: Well, that’s what i wanted to hear.

Sharon: I’m sorry to worry you.

Nick: No, please don’t apologize. I’m just glad to hear that you’re coming through this. Is there anything else I can do?

Sharon: Well, you know, now that I am starting to feel like I’m in a better state of mind, I’d like to go to cassie’s grave and I’d like to lay flowers there. Talk to our girl, the way that we always did. Will you go with me? Whatever gives you life

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Abby: Chance? What’s up? Why didn’t you come inside?

Chance: Well, because of this.

Diane: What a relief that you’re not treating me like i have the plague.

Billy: Well, I’ve been the town pariah more than once. I know the feeling.

Diane: There’s more than a few people in this town that could say the same thing. But, of course, they’re the first to ostracize and criticize because they seem to have forgotten that. When I came back, I knew what i was in for, but I decided to roll with it. It’s just nice to have a break from it every once in a while.

Billy: Well, let me be very clear — I have not forgotten what you did to kyle or to the rest of my family. But I’m interested in what you plan on doing now.

Diane: Isn’t it obvious?

Billy: Abby mentioned that you could be sticking around a little while, which is confusing to me because kyle and summer should be going back to milan soon.

Diane: Oh, they’re possibly moving back here.

Billy: Are you sure about that?

Diane: I have no idea how or when, but that’s what kyle told me. And I get the impression they’re going to make it happen. That’s why kyle asked me to stay, and as long as he wants me nearby, that’s where I’ll be.

Billy: Meaning you’d stay permanently.

Diane: Without a moment’s hesitation. Are you feeling a little less friendly towards me now?

Devon: Hey, dom.

Elena: So how did the meeting go?

Nate: It ended well, thanks to billy. But the tension between devon and me was pretty thick.

Elena: Did you guys disagree about something?

Nate: How much of our future plans we should reveal at the launch.

Elena: And was that something worth getting that worked up about?

Nate: Chancellor-winters needs to make the best first impression possible. It’s important.

Elena: I guess so, since you guys are disagreeing about it. But are things better now?

Nate: Yeah, yeah. I’d chalk it up to a one-time thing. But something similar did happen between us yesterday. Circumstances were different, but the vibe was the same.

Elena: So you really think there’s a problem developing between you and devon?

Nate: No, I wouldn’t go that far. It’s more like growing pains. At least I hope that’s all it is.

Elena: Yeah, I’m sure you’re probably right.

Nate: It’s got to be a difficult transition for devon. You know, one minute, you’re the boss of everybody and your opinion is the only one that matters, and then, all of a sudden, you have to share your decisions with not just lily but with billy and me, too.

Elena: I think you’re both just under a lot of pressure right now. And once things get settled, it’ll be fine.

Nate: You really think so?

Elena: I do. I mean, as well as you both know each other personally, you still have to find your footing on a professional level. And it’s not surprising to me that two brilliant, strong men would be clashing a bit.

Nate: Yeah, I guess you’re right.

Elena: You both were so excited to work together, and you both want chancellor-winters to succeed, so, I mean, that’s got to count for something.

Nate: That counts for a lot. But I didn’t come back expecting to talk about all this. I came back because I felt guilty about something, and i didn’t want to wait to make things right.

Elena: What’s — what’s going on? Did something happen?

Nate: Yeah, it kind of did, and I have no one to blame but myself.

Elena: [ Sighs ] Okay.

Nate: You know when we talked earlier about not having enough time to spend together?

Elena: Yes, and?

Nate: Well, I felt badly about my solution. A weekend date just doesn’t cut it. There’s not a lot we can do to carve out more time, especially since you don’t have the same flexibility with your schedule as I do with mine. So I realized that it’s up to me to work around your schedule. And being with you is at the top of my priority list.

Elena: Wow. I love you for thinking that way. And I love you for putting me at the top of your list. And I love you for coming here just to tell me that.

Nate: Mm. Well, that’s — that’s a whole lot of loving.

Elena: Yeah, it is. But I do think that our relationship deserves to be nurtured and tended to by the both of us. So even though I can’t always dictate my own schedule, there are other ways that I can show you how much I love you.

Billy: I have not changed my outlook, but I am thinking about other people, in particular jack, who’s going to have a different reaction to finding out that you could be a permanent resident of genoa city once again.

Diane: Jack has made his position perfectly clear. He’s not happy that I’m here, but he’s supportive of kyle’s wishes. Although he’s extremely skeptical of me.

Billy: Well, that’s my brother. He’s always protecting his son, as he should.

Diane: When we first met, jack wasn’t exactly what you’d call the reliable or paternal type. He’s come a long way since then. He’s become this really good man and a wonderful father. I admire that, and I’d like to try to live by his example, to be as good a mother as he is a father.

Billy: I understand the urge to compare yourself to someone else, but that is not gonna get you anywhere. You need to focus on being the best version of yourself you possibly can.

Diane: When did you become so wise?

Billy: Yeah, I am far from wise, but I’ve been through some things. And if I can help anyone, then that’s good with me.

Diane: Well, I hope your forgiving nature rubs off on your brother. Maybe you could put a good word in for me. No, no. I mean, unless you’re comfortable doing that.

Billy: [ Chuckles ] My family knows where I stand. I believe some people can change. I have to, or I wouldn’t be able to have faith in myself. And if redemption is possible for me, then it is possible for others. I’m not gonna change my tune, unless, of course, you give me a reason to.

Diane: Thanks. That’s all I can hope for.

Abby: Mmm. Well, not that I’m complaining, but what is this all about?

Chance: Mm. Caught a break in the case. Once the warrant comes through, we’ll make a move on this guy and lock him up. I tell you, I did everything by the book on this one. I’ll be glad to put it to rest.

Abby: One of rey’s cases?

Chance: I’m gonna close every single one he was working on. I know that’s what he would’ve done, so I’m gonna do the same.

Abby: I’m so proud of you. And I know rey is, too.

Nick: [ Sighs ] I am glad we did that.

Sharon: Me too. Time alone with cassie was just what I needed. I feel better. I feel ready to get back to work now.

Nick: Are you sure? You don’t want to take some more time off?

Sharon: No, I feel at peace. And a lot of that is thanks to you, nick. Once again, you’ve found a way to help me get through a rough patch.

Nick: Well, you do the same for me. That’s what family’s all about.

Jack: A picnic? What did I do to deserve this?

Phyllis: Well, I, um — you know, I’m trying some new summer specials. “Grand picnics with the grand phoenix.” It’s cute [Chuckling] Right? I mean, I have a lot of different combinations. And some are elegant. Some are romantic. What do you think? Yeah?

Jack: I love it, but we’re here to bounce ideas around?

Phyllis: Well, no, not exactly.

Jack: Well, we’re obviously not here to try to get back in sync since you brought me to a very public place.

Phyllis: You’re under a lot of pressure these days with jabot and the she-devil. You deserve the finer things in life, I think.

Jack: Berries.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm.

Jack: Doughnuts.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Jack: And bubbly.

Phyllis: Right.

Jack: [ Chuckles ]

Phyllis: I have a bunch of different combinations. This is our — our high-carb combination [Laughs] Obviously. But… and — and we can celebrate, the two of us right now, with the possibility of summer and harrison and kyle moving back to genoa city.

Jack: Uh-huh, that would certainly change things.

Phyllis: Yeah, it would answer my lonely mom dreams.

Jack: Yeah. Be nice to have them back here.

Phyllis: Buy marchetti.

Jack: Would be an interesting prospect, but very expensive and very risky for jabot. I hope you understand I cannot make this happen solely to get summer and kyle back home.

Diane: Kyle. Summer. What a nice surprise. Come on in.

Kyle: I just wanted to see how you were settling in, if you need anything.

Diane: I think I will be much happier here at the athletic club not worrying about phyllis lurking in the shadows. I — I shouldn’t complain in front of her daughter. That’s a faux pas. And no offense intended, but your mother really has it out for me.

Summer: None taken. I am well aware of my mother’s feelings about you.

Diane: Mm. Well, I hope the fact that you’re here is an indication that you’re an independent thinker, that you’re willing to make up your own mind about me.

Summer: I am here to support my husband. I see you’ve wasted no time making yourself at home.

Diane: Oh. [ Chuckles ] The picture? Yes, it’s kind of a tradition. Whenever I’d move, it’d be the first thing I took out of my bag, the picture of my beautiful boy. I imagine that you’ll need to pack up your belongings and head back to your work in milan before too long.

Kyle: That might not be the case.

Diane: Oh?

Kyle: There’s a chance we might move back to genoa city. Permanently.

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Michael: I’ve completed all the paperwork. You just give me the green light, and I will file a civil — [Quietly] I will file a civil suit against ashland.

[ Fingers snapping ]

Victor: I want you to bury that bastard in subpoenas and depositions. But there’s one thing I’m worried about — that this becomes public. I don’t want the company to get hurt, and certainly not victoria.

Michael: None of this is going to see the light of day in a courtroom. Look, locke is a clever guy. He’s gonna see what’s coming, and he’s gonna wave the white flag before it ever gets that far.

Victor: You turn up the heat. You make sure that happens. I don’t want any reason for ashland locke to stay in this town. You got it?

Ashland: Okay, listen. Um, a solid legal agreement aside, what if things have changed between the biological father and myself? The relationship we once shared just a short time ago has become strained.

Pat: I’m sorry to hear that.

Ashland: Yeah, I just want to make sure that, per this agreement, kyle and summer can’t keep me from spending time with harrison.

Pat: I’ll review the agreement and get back to you.

Ashland: Can you get back to me this afternoon? Would that be okay?

Pat: Always happy to be of service.

Ashland: Listen, uh, this — this child means everything to me. I just want to make sure I’m on solid legal ground in case things — things go south. Can you please just let me know as soon as possible if there’s some change we have to make?

Phyllis: Oh, I understand that. I mean, summer said the numbers were great.

Jack: The numbers are impressive, yes, but jabot just got out of the fashion business. I’m not sure if it’s the right move to get back in.

Phyllis: Mnh. It’s the right move for summer’s family.

Jack: Uprooting themselves again? Harrison’s just learned the language. They have a house. They — milan is their home.

Phyllis: Genoa city’s their home. It’ll always be their home.

Jack: Okay, I think I owe it to everyone, including jabot, to step back, think this through from all angles, and decide what the right move is.

Phyllis: Right. Okay. Well, I’ll help you with that. Okay, you — you buy marchetti, and, um, you have your entire family on one continent. You don’t buy marchetti, and you spend a lot of money flying back and forth to italy. And then summer will have to look for another position because, you know, it’ll either go under or somebody will buy it up, and we don’t know if they’re gonna hire her back.

Jack: Obviously, you would throw caution to the wind and spend your last dime to get them both back here.

Phyllis: Yeah. Without hesitation. I’ve actually thought about it a lot. I don’t care about diane and ashland and that. I just — I want my daughter home.

Jack: You must be very irritated with me at the moment.

Phyllis: No. I understand what you’re doing. You’re a businessman. You have to think about your family’s company and look at all the angles, just like you did with us. You took it day by day.

Jack: Yeah, I don’t think i ever thought of the parallels, but, yeah, just like us.

Phyllis: Yeah. So, would you do a favor for me?

Jack: Sure. What?

Phyllis: Pick up a doughnut.

Jack: Okay. What are we doing here?

Phyllis: We are going to celebrate anyway. We’re gonna celebrate —

Jack: Well, a positive spin. I like this. Go ahead.

Phyllis: Um, the possibility of summer and kyle and harrison moving back and reuniting with them again and us reuniting.

Diane: Moving home? This is incredible! Your families must be so happy.

Summer: Well, nothing is set in stone quite yet.

Kyle: Yeah, we’re having conversations.

Diane: Then I will remain cautiously optimistic.

[ Chuckles ] Although I am curious as to why you’re considering it.

Summer: It’s kind of a long story.

Diane: Don’t tell me that you’ve quit your dream job at marchetti so kyle can move home. That’s a heroic sacrifice.

Kyle: Summer wouldn’t be moving back because of me.

Diane: Oh?

Kyle: This was a mutual decision based on what would be best for both of our careers.

Summer: And our families. The abbotts and the newmans.

Diane: I see.

Summer: It was my idea initially, and the best part — I wouldn’t be giving up my dream job.

Diane: I’d love to hear more.

Summer: Well, I don’t want to jinx it, but it is a real possibility.

Diane: Well, forgive me if I’m getting ahead of myself, but I’d love to spend more time with you for however long you’re in town.

Summer: Oh. That is so nice of you to say. But don’t you have any commitments back in L.A.? A job? A life? Friends who miss you?

Diane: [ Chuckles ] Well, that’s one of the benefits of working in real estate — I’m my own boss. So I’m free to be here for as long as kyle wants me to be. But you know I won’t push, right?

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Summer: Oh. Excuse me.

Diane: Oh, of course.

Summer: It’s my grandfather.

Diane: Well, free free to take the call.

Summer: That’s okay. I’ll talk to him later.

Kyle: We should get going. Got a lot on our plate if we want to make this move a reality.

Diane: Then I won’t keep you a moment longer. I hope that everything works out exactly the way you want it, and thank you so much for checking in.

Kyle: We’ll talk soon.

Diane: Okay. Bye.

Sharon: I’m aware of the fact that you’ve donated a large sum of money to new hope in rey’s name. $250 million, to be exact.

Ashland: I was assured that donation would remain anonymous. I never want anyone to —

Sharon: Okay, we both know that’s a load of crap! But I am glad, however, that rey’s name will live on in association with good works and helping people improve their lives and that yours won’T. Because from everything that i have seen, you have done nothing but lie to people who unfortunately trusted you. And I don’t want you to think that this grand gesture absolves you of anything because it doesn’T. You lied about having a fatal illness that kills millions of people every year, and clearly you don’t take that seriously, but I do.

Ashland: I know.

Sharon: And when I confronted you a few weeks ago about your lies, you nearly swore up and down that it was some smear campaign against you and that your hands were clean, but now I know. I know the truth, and I know the depth of your deception. You faked your illness, you lied about your recovery, and it was all for some personal gain.

Ashland: I deeply regret what I’ve done.

Sharon: You have no idea what it’s like to hear your doctor tell you that you have cancer. All you can do is wonder how much time you have left. And there are a lot of days that you don’t want to get out of bed, but you do it anyway because you don’t want the people who love you and care about you to worry. There are days when you are so miserable that you seriously just want it all to come to an end. But I was really lucky. I had a lot of people around me caring for me and loving me, and they were there for me all the time, whether I wanted them there or not. They got me through the treatments and through nausea, nightmares. And, you know, to this day, the thing that haunts me the most about it is what my illness did to them and the tears that they shed and — and the bargains that they had to make with god. You did that. You put victoria and harrison through that on purpose. You were intentionally cruel to them, and there is no amount of money in the world that could ever make amends for that. You’re disgusting.

Noah: Mom? Everything okay here?

Sharon: Yeah. It’s fine. It’s a lot better now that you’re here. Um… let me get you something to drink. I brought in ensure max protein,

Victor: I wonder why summer’s not answering her phone.

Adam: Gentlemen.

Victor: Adam. My boy.

Adam: Hey, I don’t mean to interrupt, but I was just wondering if you had heard anything from victoria since she took her much-needed r&R.

Victor: No, as a matter of fact, I haven’T. But I’m sure she’s fine.

Adam: When do you expect her to return?

Victor: I hope she stays for a long time and enjoys herself, you know?

Adam: [ Chuckles ] However many massages it takes to get her head back in the game, right?

Victor: Please, no criticism of your sister, alright?

Adam: No, I’m not taking a shot at her. I wish her the best.

Victor: The longer she stays away, the more of a chance we have to send locke his way. You know that he’s using the boy, harrison, now as an excuse to stay in town.

Adam: Why are you wasting your time chasing someone who’s clearly got other issues to deal with? I mean, he’s focused on his son. He’s not causing us any trouble. Maybe the best thing to do would be not pay attention to him at all.

Michael: Ignoring a festering sore won’t make it go away.

Adam: Okay, now I see what’s going on here. A lawyer with an axe to grind because ashland sent you to a peruvian prison.

Michael: You think?

Adam: Look, you’re angry. It’s understandable, but, i mean, is it really in the newman family’s best interest to continue to hold ashland accountable after he has accepted our deal?

Michael: Well, it seems to me that you want to hold victoria accountable, and the only person who would benefit from punishing your ceo would be what, who? You — adam!

Victor: Please, please, please, please, please. Calm down, both of you. We need to get ashland locke not only out of our lives, but out of town. And I have a way to do that.

Sharon: How’s the drink?

Noah: It’s pretty tasty. What is it?

Sharon: Oh, it’s something special I just make for my favorite customers.

Noah: Mm. I guess it’s safe to say you didn’t make one for mr. Ashland locke then.

Sharon: No, I did not.

Noah: Can I go deal with him, or am I supposed to pretend i didn’t pick up on all the tension when I walked in here?

Sharon: I don’t want to waste another moment of thought on him.

Noah: [ Sighs ] Okay. Alright, well, did you at least get a chance to look at the group chat? Tessa and mariah — they just dropped a bunch of pictures from their honeymoon.

Sharon: Oh, all the selfies they took of them in front of every single exhibit and statue in paris?

Noah: [ Chuckling ] Yeah. Yeah, it looks like they’re having the time of their life. Kind of makes me miss europe.

Sharon: Don’t tell me you’re getting tired of genoa city. I know you keep saying that you want to stay, but then you get the urge to wander.

Noah: I’m not going anywhere, mom. I love being home.

Sharon: What is it that you miss?

Noah: Maybe I miss the art. Maybe — maybe I’m just feeling restless. Either way, I’m fine. I promise. Are you sure you’re okay?

Sharon: I love you for worrying, but I don’t need your protection. Hey! Allie, come on in.

Allie: Sorry. I didn’t want to interrupt.

Sharon: No, no, not at all. Um, I was really happy to see you at mariah and tessa’s wedding.

Allie: Yeah.

Sharon: I hope you had a good time.

Allie: Oh, it was so fun. I had a really great time.

Noah: Ohh. Only the boldest of wedding crashers would dare admit something like that.

Allie: Oh, oh, sharon, i didn’t crash the wedding, by the way. Summer had invited me and insisted it was okay for me to go.

Sharon: He’s just kidding.

[ Chuckles ] People were really happy to get to meet you.

Allie: Well, I had a great time and felt very thankful to be included.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Sharon: So, uh, what can i get you?

Allie: Um…something cold?

Sharon: Great. Um, why don’t you sit down someplace and I’ll bring it over?

Allie: Okay. Sounds good.

[ Liquid pouring, ice cubes clinking ]

Noah: I think she’s feeling a little overwhelmed with the new city and her whole instant family.

Sharon: Well, right after losing her father, she found out that she’s an abbott, and that’s got to be a lot to adjust to.

Noah: Yeah. Here. I’ll take that. Let’s see if I can annoy her any less than I have been.

Sharon: Mm.

[ Sighs ]

Summer: I got your message to meet you here. Got to admit, I’ve missed these impromptu visits.

Victor: Well, we have all missed you, you know.

Summer: It’s been so hard to be so far from family.

Victor: I know.

Summer: There was no popping out for coffee with mom or running into victoria in the park.

Victor: I know. We might have to do something about that, right? So you know, nikki and I will have a little party at the ranch as to honor your presence and kyle’s presence and harrison’s presence, okay?

Summer: Maybe we can make it a celebration dinner.

Victor: In what way?

Summer: We are considering moving back home.

Victor: You are? I love that.

Summer: We are still in the fingers-crossed phase, but i hope you’re ready for those chess lessons with harrison because when I told him that you offered to teach him, he broke out into this new little happy dance. You’ve got to see it.

Victor: I’m looking forward to it.

Summer: But do not let that innocent little face fool you because he has perfected it while we’ve been away.

Victor: Oh, I bet.

Summer: And then to hear the italian coming out of his little mouth?

Victor: He speaks a little italian?

Summer: [ Laughs ] Forget it.

Victor: I love that. Really?

Summer: Just try not to spoil him.

Victor: It’s a grandfather’s privilege to spoil his grandchildren, you know? As far as I’m concerned, he is now as much a newman as he is an abbott.

Summer: Ashland still considers himself harrison’s father.

Victor: That’s the reason i asked you to come by, okay? We need to do something about that. We need to protect the boy.

Summer: Protect him how?

Victor: I want you to talk to kyle, ask him to restrict all visitation rights between harrison and ashland locke. I want that man out of town. I want to sever all ties. With harrison or anyone else completely. I’m steve, I lost 138 pounds in nine months on golo

Allie: Oh, thanks.

Noah: A little concoction my mother whipped up. I think she only makes it for the cool kids.

Allie: Really? Wow. You are so far off the mark, noah. I was gonna go listen to my great uncle billy’s podcast. Wow, that’s really weird to say. I’ve never had a great uncle before.

Noah: Which episode are you on? He just released a great one. It’s all about feeling insecure.

Allie: Yeah, about feeling out of place.

[ Chuckles ]

Noah: Yeah.

Allie: Yeah. Wait — I just started, so don’t spoil it.

Noah: I promise. It is a good one, though. Definitely relatable.

Allie: Relatable? What, you? I don’t believe that. You seem totally secure.

Noah: I do?

Allie: Yeah, you do. You aren’t great at humor or irony. I mean, sometimes I even wonder if you know the difference between what’s amusing and embarrassing. But you just put yourself out there and barrel ahead. It’s actually — it’s actually very brave of you.

Noah: You know, I’m not sure that’s a compliment.

Allie: Oh, it’s not. It’s just an observation.

Noah: [ Laughs ] So, you like podcasts, huh?

Allie: I do. I listen to it all the time when I’m in the lab or when I go running. My new favorite — “the grinning soul.”

Noah: Ohh, yeah, I like that one, too. Yeah, the whole “truth to power” angle.

Allie: Yes. I love how he just puts it all out there, you know? Like, you know, when he’s angry, he just vents and doesn’t really hold back. I wish I could just vent like that.

Noah: Well, everyone needs an outlet.

Allie: Do you have one?

Noah: Yeah. I mean, anytime something’s bothering me or I’m feeling confounded by something, I just do a little sketch.

Allie: So, is something bothering you right now?

Ashland: For what it’s worth, I am trying to make amends.

Sharon: I don’t believe for one second that you feel an ounce of remorse.

Ashland: I am truly sorry for your loss.

Sharon: Please just save your condolences. I don’t want them. There’s not enough time in the world for you to make amends, and anybody who would do something like you did is someone that I don’t care to know.

Ashland: Okay.

Noah: And that, I hope, is all you’ll ever need to know about ashland locke.

Allie: Wow. He just left, so at least you don’t have to worry about him bugging your mom anymore.

Noah: [ Sighs ] Yeah, my mom — she’s the strongest person I know. I don’t know why I feel so compelled to protect her.

Noah: Oh. Well, there’s a shock, that you actually think I’m good at something.

Allie: I’m just saying that i think it’s especially difficult for you to take a step back right now, considering that your mom just lost her husband. Everything must be falling on your shoulders right now.

Noah: Yeah. I mean, you know how it is. You — you lost your dad recently.

Allie: Yeah.

Summer: Kyle and I are both concerned about ashland’s influence over harrison, and it is our job to protect him now, mine and kyle’S.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

Diane: Ashland! You’re a difficult man to chase down. You rushed right past me at the coffeehouse. And since you’re one of the few people in this town who will actually speak to me, I thought we could — I don’t know — share a bench, enjoy the sunshine.

Phyllis: Look at this. No matter how beautiful it is outside, there are always pests.

Diane: Hello, you two. Enjoying the day?

Phyllis: Why are you together? Really. Is there some sort of gravitational pull two pariahs would have?

Diane: Let me guess. You’re celebrating the return of kyle’s adorable family to the fold for good.

Jack: That is neither public information nor a foregone conclusion.

Diane: Oh. I’m — I’m sorry. I didn’t realize it was a secret.

Phyllis: How’d you find out?

Diane: Summer told me. She and kyle dropped by my gorgeous new suite at the athletic club earlier today. It is such a lovely and charming space. I really should have stayed there from the very beginning. And it is so comfy. I already feel like I’m at home. I may never leave.

Jack: No firm decisions have been made. Any celebrating would be highly premature.

Diane: I got it. But I am excited about the possibility of really getting to know my son and daughter-in-law. And of course my adorable grandson will be so spoiled by his dee-dee.

Ashland: What?

Diane: Dee-dee. That’s the name that kyle and i decided that harrison should call me.

Ashland: I’m sorry. Would it be alright if I ask just how harrison is doing? I would still love to see him.

Jack: Certain details of the arrangement are being re-evaluated, given your recent actions.

Phyllis: And, uh, by “recent actions,” we mean lying about having cancer.

Ashland: Jack, I’ve taken your advice. I’ve spoken to my attorney.

Jack: I think decisions about harrison need to be made by kyle and summer right now.

Ashland: Yeah, I understand that, but I also have rights where harrison is concerned. Look, this doesn’t have to be acrimonious.

Jack: Oh, I think we’re well beyond that, given what you’ve done. A word to the wise — any friendship that is burgeoning here might not help your campaign to show genoa city a new and improved dee-dee.

Noah: Oh. Another episode of “the grinning soul” just dropped.

Allie: Yeah. Well, it will be something that I’ll listen to later. I’m gonna go on a run since i don’t have a sketchpad to vent to.

Noah: Oh.

Allie: Mm.

Noah: Alright, well, knock yourself out. I will just doodle away my frustrations.

Allie: What a doodler.

Noah: You know who else was a doodler?

Allie: Who?

Noah: Da vinci.

Allie: Wow, so you’re saying that you’re on the same level as him?

Noah: I guess you’ll just have to stick around and see.

Allie: [ Laughs ] Okay.

Noah: [ Laughs ]

Victor: If you and kyle and harrison return to genoa city, that’ll give ashland locke a reason to stay.

Summer: You don’t think that we can handle him.

Victor: You two are two very good-natured people. You have good hearts. And he will talk you into sharing custody. That will be a huge problem.

Summer: When we heard what ashland did to victoria and the family…

Victor: Right.

Summer: …Kyle was ready to rip him to shreds.

Victor: I like that impulse.

Summer: It should be too complicated to keep ashland out of harrison’s life. On one hand, you have kyle, who is an upstanding member of the community, who’s established his paternity and absolutely adores his son. And then there’s ashland, who is a liar and a criminal, even if he’s never officially been charged with anything.

Victor: I want you to feel assured of the fact that michael baldwin and I have a lot of evidence against ashland locke.

Summer: And ashland was more than fine with kyle and I taking harrison to milan with us. That should work in our favor, as well.

Victor: So, you have been thinking about this? I like that.

Summer: That boy owns a huge piece of my heart. I am determined to protect him.

Victor: So, you will talk to kyle about all this?

Summer: I’ll make it happen.

Diane: I have to say, you’ve made your fair share of enemies in this town.

Ashland: Have you been spying on me?

Diane: [ Laughs ] No, no. But I did overhear sharon giving you a piece of her mind, and i know there’s tension between you and kyle and summer, but I — I don’t know the details.

Ashland: Well, I couldn’t help but notice that you have your share of adversaries, as well.

Diane: I’ll admit I deserve a lot of the venom that’s spewed my way, but it is what it is. Rebuilding my relationship with kyle is what’s most important to me.

Ashland: I’m afraid that my actions will keep me from seeing my son. See, that’s very interesting to me. You, uh — you didn’t even flinch when I referred to harrison as my son just now, even though you are kyle’s mother.

Diane: Well, from what I’ve observed, harrison has two fathers who love him. He’s a lucky boy. But what I want to know is what you’ve done to become the most hated man in genoa city.

Ashland: Oh, now, don’t limit me to genoa city. I am the most hated man wherever I go. I’m very proud of that.

Diane: [ Laughs ] Alright. I’ll share my dirty laundry if you share yours.

Ashland: Well, I suppose you’re gonna find out anyway. At least this way, I get to, uh, control the narrative.

[ Clears throat ] Brace yourself. Listen, I’m done settling. Because this is my secret.

Phyllis: Our perfect picnic trampled on by diane. Or should I call her “dee-dee”?

[ High-pitched voice ] Dee-dee! Ugh, she’s like a mosquito that you want to swat away, but you can’T. She and ashland locke, by the way, are perfect for each other. They’re cut from the same cloth.

Jack: I had a great time. And I’m not gonna let anything or anyone ruin my memory of the day.

Phyllis: Diane ruins everything.

Jack: Listen to me. Let’s go back to where we were — celebrating our family reunion, celebrating us. Hey, look, the hotel is doing great. Jabot is doing great. Our kids are doing great.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Jack: Let’s enjoy that blessing.

Phyllis: Okay. Okay. I agree. And you know what I hope? I hope that ashland locke is finally diane’s undoing.

Diane: Wow. When we started this whole “who has more to be ashamed of” contest, I was worried that I’d win by a mile, but I don’t know. From my calculations, I think it’s a draw.

Ashland: So, does this change your opinion of me as to whether or not I’m qualified to be a good father?

Diane: Oh, who am I to judge? I mean, I just told you that i essentially abandoned my son.

Ashland: You do realize what this means, right? Right now, we are in a very rare judgment-free zone.

Diane: Yes. We’re both equally guilty… but both equally searching for redemption.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] I just — I — I hate the possibility that this could turn into a nasty legal battle with harrison at the center of it. That boy is the only source of love and light in my life right now. I — he’s the only person that still looks at me as if I hung the moon. And the idea that he would find out something about me that would change the way he thinks about me — I just —

[ Sighs ]

Diane: I know. I’ve been there.

[ Chuckles ] Kyle and I were so close when he was young. And I truly believe that what i did was to protect him. And I know now how terribly wrong I was. But seeing the conflict in kyle’s eyes and — and knowing the pain I put him through as a child…guts me.

[ Voice breaking ] You know, the only good thing about pretending to be dead is that I wasn’t here to witness the aftermath of ripping his heart to shreds.

Ashland: But, see, that’s exactly — exactly why I want to stay here and fight for my right to see harrison. Because I want him to know that I would never turn my back on him. He will always be a part of my life, and — and my love for him is real. And think about this. Think about what it would do to him, think about what he would think if I were to suddenly just disappear from his life entirely with no explanation whatsoever.

Diane: Well, there’s no easy solution for either of us. And if we stay, we have to be willing to bear the slings and arrows.

[ Sighs ] But I won’t take jack’s warning lightly. I wouldn’t want to do anything that would jeopardize my chances with kyle. So, ashland, I feel for you. And I’m sorry. But if you’re hoping I’ll plead your case, I — I can’T.

Ashland: I understand. This is my battle. And, um…whatever it costs, harrison is worth it.

Summer: Tell me everything. Are we any closer to getting jabot to acquire marchetti?

Kyle: Well, I talked to our financial team and got a clearer picture of the ramifications. I think we’re gonna make a full presentation to my dad.

Summer: That’s great news.

Kyle: What did victor want? Oh, let me guess. He summoned you to give you another earful about my mother.

Summer: It was about ashland and harrison. My grandfather thinks that we should consider taking immediate legal action against locke to restrict his access to harrison. He even has michael baldwin on board to make that happen.

Kyle: Yeah, well, victor’s got a point. Now that we’re hoping to move back to genoa city, I don’t want ashland to have any influence over harrison.

Summer: So he needs to be stopped.

Kyle: No, it’s not that simple. Harrison loves the guy. And we don’t want to take any action that could harm our little boy down the road. We have to handle this situation very carefully

Summer: Of course. We need to be sensitive to harrison’s needs, and removing locke from his life might cause some confusion initially, but the older harrison gets, the harder this change is going to be. I promise you we will explain it to him in the most loving and caring way possible, but ashland is heartless and manipulative. We can’t allow him to be in harrison’s life or to have any influence over him. We need to stop him…now.

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Jack: Just to be very clear, I want this to happen, too, very much.

Phyllis: Okay.

Jack: But I also think we should take it day-to-day and try to just stay in sync.

Phyllis: Well, if you have any doubt about my feelings, maybe we should talk about that. You know, maybe we should, you know, get in sync right now, if you have the time.

Jack: Oh, I could make the time.

Phyllis: Okay.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

[ Sighs ]

Jack: It’s kyle. Hold on.

Phyllis: Oh.

Jack: He wants to meet.

Phyllis: Oh. Alright, well, another time.

Jack: Count on it.

Phyllis: Alright. Does kyle want to talk about business or diane?

Jack: Not sure.

Phyllis: Mm. Well, I hope he comes to his senses real soon. I’m not sure if that’s gonna happen now that diane has made it clear that her staying in town is a really great idea.

Jack: It’s gonna be between the two of them.

Phyllis: Okay, well, I’m worried about him. I’m worried, you know, if he goes down this path with diane, he’s going to get hurt. I don’t want to see him hurt. Do you want to see him hurt?

Jack: No.

Phyllis: I know you want to protect him.

Jack: Of course I do.

Phyllis: Good.

Jack: And I’ve made my feelings very clear to him. But I don’t think it would be helpful for me to try to influence him one way or the other. So I’m not going to.

Phyllis: Well, I know you’re not going to. But someone has to.

Summer: Oh. Hey. I am so glad that I ran into you. I told chelsea, but I haven’t gotten a chance to tell you how amazing mariah and tessa’s wedding dresses were.

Chloe: Thank you. Though chelsea should get most of the credit. But, you know, I do consider myself, you know, a genius whisperer.

Summer: [ Chuckles ] It’s an important skill to have when you work in fashion.

Chloe: I know, right? I mean, but they really need people like you and me to keep their, you know, creative juices flowing.

Summer: It’s my top priority as creative director at marchetti. Artists can be a handful.

Chloe: Yeah, I know what you’re saying. But, you know, it’s kind of worth it. Well, most of the time.

Chelsea: Is everything okay with you and chelsea?

Chloe: Mm, yes, could not be better. In fact, I’ve really got to get going. I’m late for a meeting with her.

Summer: It was great to talk to you.

Chloe: You too. Talk soon.

Adam: Well, one of the worst things about victoria returning to work and nikki being installed as co-ceo is that the streaming deal that I pitched to dad has completely gone by the wayside. He and nikki are too focused on propping up their little girl that they have let business suffer. It’s a huge missed opportunity.

Sally: Well, maybe there’s a way that newman media can salvage at least part of the project.

Adam: Well, what did you have in mind?

Sally: Well, instead of creating a giant streamer, like we planned, to compete with the big guys, we execute a more surgical strike. We launch a niche platform targeted towards a very particular demographic, and we do that specific content better than the big guys and we build an audience that way.

Adam: That could be interesting. I like that you’re always thinking.

Sally: You keep up okay. I know that you’re frustrated that our plan to reunite victoria and ashland has been put on hold while victoria’s off on her little spa holiday with nikki, but it is just temporary.

Chelsea: I can’t believe you’re not here and you’re not answering your phone. Chloe, I waited outside for 20 minutes. This meeting was on the schedule, and what’s worse is i got a call this morning that the fabric delivery is gonna be late. So we need to figure out what to do. Okay? Call me.

Adam: Is everything alright?

Diane: Aww, it is so fun watching harrison play in the backyard. And he’s really good with other kids.

Kyle: Yeah, he’s a social little guy. He’s been great at making friends in italy, but I can tell he misses some of his buddies from when we used to live here. Which is why I invited max and his mom over for a playdate.

Diane: Well, max is pretty cute, too.

Kyle: And his mom is great. She’ll keep them entertained in the back for a while. It’s nice to have someone around you can trust with your kid.

Diane: Yeah, trust — trust is important, for sure.

Kyle: Hey, thanks for not pushing things with harrison. I know we haven’t talked about it directly — what you will be to him — but to be honest, I’m not sure.

Diane: It’s okay. We have time to figure it out. All harrison needs to know right now is that I want to spend more time with him and his father. And we’ll just take it from there.

Kyle: Sounds good.

Diane: Yeah.

Kyle: Thanks.

Diane: I will take my cues from you and go whatever pace you’re comfortable with.

Jack: Hello, everyone. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised to find you here.

Diane: Well, in case you’re wondering, I didn’t barge in, i was invited.

Kyle: That’s true. There’s something I want to talk to you about. My mother will be staying in town for a little while longer.

Diane: I’m guessing he’s already heard that news.

Phyllis: Oh, I love this. I love that I can just call you and meet for coffee.

Summer: It’s so nice, isn’t it?

Phyllis: It is. You know what’s so funny? Jack got a text from kyle to meet him at the house.

Summer: Ah, I see.

Phyllis: You see what?

Summer: That’s the real reason you wanted to meet.

Phyllis: I have no idea what you mean.

Summer: Kyle told me that you overheard his conversation with diane, so you know that she’s staying in town. He said that you looked pretty upset about it.

Phyllis: Did he? Oh. Yeah, well, I mean, that whole thing was surprising.

Summer: And?

Phyllis: And what? Nothing.

Summer: I know that that’s not everything you want to say, so just go ahead and get it out.

Phyllis: Okay, I’ll get it out. I’m impressed with you, that you’re just sitting back and allowing kyle to go through all the pain and suffering of realizing that his mother is the worst human being on the planet. It’s very patient and mature of you.

Summer: That’s it?

Phyllis: Yeah, yeah. And, you know, it’s so funny ’cause jack is taking the same stance. He doesn’t want to influence kyle. He wants him, you know, to realize for himself that his mother will only cause him a bunch of pain and — and, you know, he just wants to stand back and do nothing.

Summer: So what — what’s your point?

Phyllis: My point is do something. Do something about it, summer. Really. Can you please convince your husband to put his wife and his family first and get this woman out of town? Who do you think you are, taking up space?

Chelsea: Everything’s great. I just seem to have terrible timing today.

Jack: Yes, phyllis did fill me in on the conversation she overheard.

Diane: [ Sighs ] Of course she did.

Kyle: Yeah, my mother and i talked about it, and I asked her to stay for a while, so i offered to put her up at another hotel.

Jack: When I got your text, i assumed we would be talking about your relationship with your mother and how it might look moving forward.

Diane: Meaning you’d like me to leave so you can say how you really feel?

Jack: You can trust me. I have been very careful in my conversations with kyle about you. Careful not to influence him in any way, and I would appreciate the same courtesy from you.

Diane: I believe you, but phyllis, on the other hand, has made her motives crystal clear. She kicked me out of the grand phoenix, hoping I’d leave town. I assume that’s what you were hoping, too.

Jack: Phyllis acted completely on her own.

Diane: I — I apologize. I — I just figured you were in on it.

Jack: Well, if this is the way you want to move forward, fine. I would just counsel you one thing — be careful. There’s no turning back from this.

Summer: Grandpa already gave me the exact same speech about how to handle diane. But that’s just not the way that kyle and I work. I mean, I don’t know what you guys expect me to do. Issue him an ultimatum? ‘Cause that’s not gonna happen.

Phyllis: No, I’m not saying that. He respects you. Kyle listens to you. You say hanging around with diane is a mistake, and he will listen.

Summer: I don’t trust diane either, but I’m not entirely certain that him getting to know her again, the person that she is now, is such a bad idea. I mean, I know firsthand how important it is to have your mother in your life. When you were in the hospital for all of those years and i wasn’t sure if you were gonna regain consciousness, I felt so lost.

Phyllis: Okay, okay. That wasn’t my fault. I would’ve never decided to be separated from you, summer. No good mother, no decent human being in the world would choose to be separated from their son and make their son believe that they are dead.

Summer: All I am saying is that some old wounds can be healed. I mean, take dina and jack, for example. After they reunited after all of that time, and that time that he had with her ended up being so precious to him.

Phyllis: Listen to your defense of diane. This is amazing. And every scenario you’re coming up with to defend diane is about somebody else. What she did was inexcusable.

Summer: But you supported jack in reconnecting with dina, did you not?

Phyllis: Yes, that’s completely different, summer.

Summer: How is it different?

Phyllis: I’ll explain to you. Dina was at the end of her days. She couldn’t have hurt jack any more than she already had. Diane, on the other hand, is in the prime of her miserable life. Come on. Kyle is so emotional about this. He’s fixated on what could’ve been and what — what maybe she could be and what he wants her to be. It’s blinding him to see who she really is.

Summer: Okay, let’s just say you are 100% right about diane. What’s the worst that she could do? I mean, kyle is an adult. It’s not like she can move him away from the abbotts.

Phyllis: Okay, she would not remove him physically. She would do it emotionally.

Summer: How would she do that?

Phyllis: Here’s one — ashley. By the way, ashley is the only person in the abbott clan who’s not going along with this, you know, neutral, phony stance. Thank god. But ashley, she says something bad about diane, kyle sides with diane, there it is. There’s a rift in the family.

Summer: That’s all you’ve got. One hypothetical scenario.

Phyllis: Okay, summer, let me tell you something. Your husband will be dragged into defending this woman time and time again. That will separate him from this entire town. There is a reason why no one wants her here. There is a reason why everyone hates diane.

Summer: [ Sighs ] I’m starting to think that this is not so much about your concern for kyle, and it’s more about you and your hatred for diane. Pre-rinsing your dishes?

Diane: One thing you and everyone else may be overlooking is that all this opposition might backfire. Instead of driving a wedge between kyle and me, we could end up feeling ganged up on.

Jack: Is that your way of telling us when you feel your back is against the wall, that you tend to lash out?

Diane: No, jack, it’s just a suggestion that you ease up. As for the substance of your concerns, that I’m not being truthful, you are thoroughly mistaken. I have been nothing but open and honest with kyle, as I feel he’s been with me. And that’s the only way we’re going to have a meaningful relationship, which is the sole reason I’m staying.

Kyle: Yeah, maybe you’d like to settle in at the club. Your bags are there, and your tab is set up.

Diane: You know what? That sounds wonderful. In fact, I think I’d like to spend a little time in the gym on the bike.

[ Chuckles ] Thank you for letting me visit with harrison. I’ll — I’ll see you soon. Oh, I just had a thought. Maybe harrison can call me “dee-dee”? It’s easy to say, and it doesn’t have to mean anything significant.

Kyle: I like it. A lot.

Diane: [ Chuckles ] Okay.

Phyllis: I’ll own that, sure. I hate diane. I hate her. Nobody’s here, okay? Don’t worry. But by the way, virtually everyone else in town hates her, too.

Summer: That’s not exactly true. Kyle doesn’t hate diane, and he is the one that matters here.

Phyllis: Okay. Your husband is really smart. I believe that. And I believe that he is still trying to deal with all his feelings of, you know, his mother coming back from the dead and all the feelings he had losing her when he was a little boy. I believe that. And he has a million “what ifs” going on in — in his head.

Summer: Yeah, and my hope is that more time with her is gonna answer all of his questions.

Phyllis: I know diane. And I know she’s been plotting and planning this for a really, really long time. She is capitalizing on his emotions. She is manipulating him. Please do not underestimate what she will do to your husband. Please, please do not underestimate what she will do to your marriage.

Summer: Diane is not going to affect my marriage. Make no mistake about that. I will make sure of it. But [Sighs] For kyle’s sake, I have to stand back and let this play out.

Phyllis: I don’t think you’re doing the right thing.

Summer: Mom, this is my husband. You’re not gonna change my position on this, okay?

Phyllis: Okay. I have nothing more to say.

Summer: [ Sighs ] Okay. We’re not through. I have something important that I want to discuss with you.

Chloe: Um, yeah, kevin and i got our signals crossed about picking up miles for a playdate, and then my phone died. And I’m sorry, I really didn’t mean to leave you hanging.

Chelsea: Yeah, well, luckily, these two wasted a little bit of my time while I was waiting.

Sally: Some might say you wasted ours.

Chloe: Okay, well, we have a lot of work to get to, so let’s get right to it.

Adam: She is so on edge.

Sally: You think? Geez. I know I probably shouldn’t have gotten into it with her, but i just cannot let anyone talk to me like that.

Adam: No, I — I know.

Sally: I wonder if they’re having trouble with the new fashion line or something.

Adam: Well, I actually hope that it’s work-related. ‘Cause her mood and her reaction to you, whatever else is going on, I’ve seen this before. It’s a sign of something that i worry that is much deeper than just a bad day at the office. Entresto is the number one heart failure brand

Chelsea: Our fabric delivery is gonna be two weeks late.

Chloe: That shouldn’t affect our delivery date because i built in some wiggle room into the schedule to account for things just like this.

Chelsea: I’m sick of suffering the consequences for other people’s mistakes.

Chloe: Okay, so how about i just give them a call and see if I can negotiate a discount?

Chelsea: That’s not the point.

Chloe: Um, are you okay? Because if you can’t handle this, I can handle the details if you don’t have the bandwidth.

Chelsea: No, I’m fine. I just — if I seem on edge, i just — I haven’t been sleeping well.

[ Sighs ] Every time I try to go to bed, my mind just spins and I can’t seem to make it stop.

Chloe: And that’s totally normal. And as the fashion line gets closer to becoming a reality, I’m sure all of the ideas are going to start flowing faster. Look, you are the creative genius half of our partnership, so let me deal with the details and you focus on what you do best.

Chelsea: There’s just been a lot going on. I mean, we thought we had a stable home for the line until victoria decided to drop us for no reason.

Chloe: Yeah, but I — I think that we found a new home and i think that that situation with lauren is so much better.

Chelsea: Do you know I heard victoria is on some european spa vacation? A man is dead because of her, yet she needs champagne and macaroons? It makes me sick.

Jack: Diane is still diane, kyle. What she just did is a perfect example. She framed the whole thing as the two of you against the world, thereby minimizing the justifiable concerns of people she’s hurt, people who are understandably wary, have about her. Look, I promised you I would support you in whatever decision you made about your mother, but I can’t turn a blind eye to what she’s doing. Insinuating herself in your life, taking liberties that —

Kyle: I agree. But she is still my mom. And we were a team for most of my childhood, until we weren’T. Look, I believe her when she says she was broken back then. She was desperate and she did some things she’s ashamed of but fully intends to do better.

Jack: Kyle, I thought this was going to be a trial period, where you spend some time with her, get to know her better before you let her all the way into your life. It sounds like you’ve already done that. It’s already happened.

Kyle: I just wish you and the rest of the family would take a deep breath and keep an open mind. If I have seen enough to be willing to give her this opening, why can’t you? Look, obviously, I can’t force you to, but I’m hoping you will at least try. For my sake.

Jack: I will do my very best.

Kyle: Thank you.

Jack: The good thing in all of this is it sounds like you’re gonna be sticking around for a while.

Kyle: That’s what I want to talk to you about. Summer and I are thinking about moving back to genoa city with harrison.

Jack: Really? That would be — wait, wait, what about summer’s career? What a– would she have to leave marchetti?

Kyle: There may be a way to do it without summer having to give up anything.

Summer: Marchetti is in trouble.

Phyllis: How?

Summer: Angelina is burning out. She assembled an entire team of junior designers so that nobody could challenge her, and I just found out that the company is dangerously overextended financially.

Phyllis: I can’t believe that they’re not doing well.

Summer: Yeah, it was a huge shock to me, as well. But then I realized…

Kyle: This is an opportunity. A fashion house with the kind of cachet and brand recognition marchetti brings to the table. The place needs new leadership and a solid financial plan for the future, but…jabot can give that to them.

Kyle: I have done the preliminary analysis, crunched the numbers. Marchetti does have a lot of debt, but a substantial amount of liquidity, which would provide us a significant boost in tax benefits. Look, you and I both know a deal like this hinges on more than just the financials, but the intangibles, and we have someone who knows every facet of the company, who’s passionate about keeping the vision alive while looking to the future. Summer’s ready to take this on.

Jack: You know I would love to have your family back here. I have missed the three of you like crazy, and I would love to work side-by-side with you again. But from a business standpoint, this gets complicated pretty fast. We made a conscious decision not long ago to step away from fashion and focus on our core business — cosmetics, the thing we built our company on. This would be a complete about-face.

Kyle: I get that. But this reminds me of something that you taught me — always be prepared when a big opportunity presents itself.

Jack: Believe me, I’m intrigued. I do have to ask one thing. How much does diane’s return factor into this decision?

Kyle: Honestly, not at all.

Phyllis: That’s an amazing idea.

Summer: If we were to bring marchetti into jabot’s fold, we would need an injection of creative talent, but jabot could provide the capital needed to get it out from this financial mess.

Phyllis: Summer, this is incredible for you. I mean, saving, essentially, the company that you’ve loved for so long and building its future, and then kyle can — he could do the deal for jabot since he’s living in milan.

Summer: That’s the best part. If we do this, we want to bring marchetti’s operations to genoa city.

Phyllis: Wait, does that — what does that mean?

Summer: It means that kyle, harrison, and I would be moving back here full time.

Phyllis: Oh, my gosh. Really? Wow! I mean, you know there’s nothing more that I would like than to have you by my side here all the time. I-I-I have one issue.

Chloe: I don’t think there’s anything wrong with victoria taking a trip. Frankly, I would love to get away. Between the stress of the new line and the kids, I could really use a break. You know, why don’t I get kevin on dad duty and you and I slip away for a quick trip to new york?

Chelsea: Just stop.

Chloe: What? It would be so fun. Come on, we could use it as an excuse for research for the new collection, and then we can get plenty of spa time in.

Chelsea: I don’t think so.

Chloe: Why not?

Chelsea: Because I don’t want a girls’ trip. And I don’t need you babysitting me.

Chloe: Okay, I think you misunderstood me. I — I wasn’t talking about babysitting you.

Chelsea: No, I think you were. I think you were patronizing me. And now you’re just flat-out lying to me, chloe. I’m not stupid.

Chloe: [ Sighs ] Okay. Um…[ Clears throat ] Excuse me.

[ Speaks indistinctly ]

Adam: How long has she been like this, chloe?

Chloe: [ Sighs ]

[ Knock on door ]

Diane: [ Chuckles ] What a nice surprise. Whenever I answer my door lately, I’m braced for an onslaught. I’m glad it’s you.

Jack: Not sure you’re gonna feel that way after you hear what I have to say. The world is full of make or break moments.

Adam: Are you worried about chelsea’s mental state?

Chloe: What? I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Adam: What do you — she just blew up at you and she stormed out of here.

Chloe: What are you talking about? I — look, you have no context to whatever accusations you’re making.

Adam: Okay. You don’t have to talk to me like I’m the enemy, okay? I’ve lived through this with her, and I know what the signs are. I share a son with her. I am concerned, and I’m asking for connor’s sake, because this could affect our son. I just want to make sure that my son is okay.

Chloe: Chelsea is a great mom. No matter what else is going on, you do not have to worry about connor.

Adam: Okay, so something is wrong.

Chloe: [ Sighs ] I think that rey’s death has really affected her. And she has invested more time into their friendship than she would like to admit. And then he was suddenly ripped out of her life.

Adam: Well, I know how much she and connor were affected by that, but my son seems to be coming to terms with that, so i didn’t realize that chelsea was still struggling or how much rey meant to her.

Chloe: I think that his forgiveness gave her the courage to come back to town, face everyone, and move forward.

Adam: So is losing him going to set her back?

Chloe: She’s rattled. There is nothing for you to worry about. I think she’s just a little angry at the world right now.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ]

[ Exhales sharply ] Ugh!

Kyle: Chelsea. Are you okay?

Chelsea: Hey. Yeah, yeah, I’m fine. I’m just —

[ Sighs ] I’m just dealing with some issues at work. You know how it is.

Kyle: I do. Are you sure nothing’s wrong?

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] You know, everyone keeps asking me that today.

[ Chuckles ] Maybe chloe was right. Maybe — maybe I do need a spa day.

Kyle: Or you could just tell me what’s really going on.

Summer: Diane has nothing to do with this, I promise you. Kyle enjoyed living in milan, but I was the driving force for us being there. It was my dream opportunity, and he went along with it because he is a loving and supportive partner, but I’ve come to realize that there was a lot that I was missing living so far away. Like getting to talk to you whenever I needed. And not on video chat.

Phyllis: Yeah. That’s a good answer. I’m just really scared to wrap my head around all of this, that’s all. I missed you so much. I missed you so much, summer. I don’t ever want to let you go, okay?

Summer: That’s okay with me.

Phyllis: Okay. [ Chuckles ]

Jack: I need to be clear with you about something. I have decided to support kyle’s decision to let you back into his life. Hoping with everything in me that you are the changed woman you claim to be. Because your absence left a void in his life, one I want my son to fill with love and kindness and nurturing commitment and connection that he has been missing from the mother he thought he lost.

Diane: Thank you.

Jack: If it turns out that you are lying, if it turns out that you have some secret ulterior motive, I swear, diane, I will make you regret ever coming back here.

Diane: Jack…I give you my solemn word that I will never hurt our son again. And if I did, you would have every right to bring hell raining down on me, and I’m — I’m sure there are a lot of people in this town who would be eager to join you.

Jack: I think we both know phyllis would be at the top of that list.

Diane: [ Sighs ] Yes, but that being said, I — i can’t keep tying myself up in knots all the time, worrying about what people think. My goal is to rebuild my relationship with kyle and enjoy the company of my grandson. And in the process, I hope you’ll see I am sincere and maybe even someone that you could trust eventually. Jack, if you could accept that kyle and I might be good for each other, I think it would ease your mind and it might even bring you some happiness. Because I know all too well what it feels like to be lonely and uncertain about your life.

Jack: I don’t know where that came from. My life is in a good place, professionally and personally.

Diane: Then this is a case where I’m glad I’m wrong.

Jack: Well, I — I said what I came to say. My moderate to severe plaque psoriasis…

Sally: So did chloe give you any more insight on what’s going on with chelsea?

Adam: Apparently, chelsea had grown more attached to rey than anyone realized.

Sally: Huh. I — I still find it remarkable that he was able to forgive her for poisoning him, and then on top of that, actually become her friend. I think that says a lot about the kind of guy that rey was, and I guess it makes sense that losing him so suddenly and tragically would hit her so hard.

Adam: Well, maybe that’s all it is. I hope so. Anyway, we have our own issues to discuss.

Sally: So we are back to business?

Adam: Mm-hmm, yes, there’s still a power vacuum that i haven’t been able to take advantage of, and my idea to distract victor from running ashland out of town did not work out like I hoped. Mm-hmm.

Sally: Your mind is still on chelsea.

Adam: Just I get the feeling that whatever’s going on with her is more than just grieving a friend.

Chelsea: Thank you for checking on me. I appreciate it. But really, I’m — I’m fine. I just, um… I overreacted about something at work, that’s all. My career is really important to me, and sometimes I take things too personally when I should just let them go. I suppose I should also learn not to stress-cry in public places.

Kyle: It happens to the best of us.

Chelsea: Oh, really? You stress-cry?

Kyle: I may have teared up once or twice.

Chelsea: I don’t believe you.

Kyle: I always made it to someplace private first.

Chelsea: Well, good for you.

Kyle: Mm.

Chelsea: Well, thank you for the kind words.

Kyle: Do you need anything?

Chelsea: No, I’m good.

Kyle: Okay. Say it one more time like you mean it, and then I’ll go.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] I’m better now, I swear.

Kyle: Okay. I’m going.

Phyllis: Hey.

Jack: Hey, there.

Phyllis: How was your meeting with kyle?

Jack: It was okay.

Phyllis: Oh.

Jack: Summer maybe fill you in already?

Phyllis: She did. You’re talking about buying marchetti and bringing it to genoa city, yeah. She — she told me. Oh, it’s amazing.

Jack: What do you really think?

Phyllis: Well, I really think it’s great. I do. I mean, I’m over the moon with the thought of my daughter being close to me again. It’s coincidental.

Jack: You’re not at all worried, then, that diane will see this as a reason to say.

Phyllis: Well, that won’t happen. That can’t happen.

Jack: Well, I hope not. But I should tell you, when i got there to see my son, you’ll never guess who was there, visiting harrison, acting like she belonged there, like she was already part of the family. She even had a nickname that harrison could call her.

Phyllis: No.

Jack: Dee-dee.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] Diane went away once. She needs to go away again.

Diane: [ Chuckles ] Things are going better than i thought. You’re going to be spending lots of time with your dee-dee.

Victor: I heard their voices. I saw them leave. You know that my family and everyone else in this town doesn’t want you here. They remember the havoc you’ve caused. They despise you.

Diane: Oh, well. I used to let the haters get me down, but no more. There’s only one person whose opinion I care about, and that’s my son’S.

Victor: I bet your son remembers that you abandoned him. He’s a smart boy. He won’t forget.

Diane: Well, think what you like, victor. I’ll be taking my cues from him. Not even you and your famous glare can intimidate me into leaving before kyle tells me what he wants.

Victor: You’re making a dangerous choice.

Diane: [ Sighs ] Maybe I am. You know, I — I may have faked my death, but none of you were faking your hostility towards me. That’s why I ran away, why i became afraid. But giving in to that fear cost me this relationship with my son. I’m stronger now, and I’ve learned what matters and earning kyle’s forgiveness is worth anything that you can put me through.

Victor: You stick around and spend a lot of time with your son, and he will realize what we’ve all known for years. You’re an incompetent mother. You’re a narcissist. You’re too selfish. He’ll learn. You will never change.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Chance: Wow, billy. It has been a while.

Jack: What brings you by, ashland?

Ashland: Well, I was hoping to — to see harrison.

Jack: I would have to get summer and kyle’s permission in order to allow that. They’re not here. But I guess you knew that. You came anyway, hoping you would get around their decision to block your access to harrison. A decision I happen to agree with.

Ashland: Okay, okay. Summer and kyle are young and headstrong. And they seem to be forgetting that we have a legally binding agreement.

Jack: No judge in this town would consider you a good influence on a child.

Ashland: Is that a challenge? Are you really saying to me right now that I need to go to a judge and get a court order to see my own son?

Jack: Yes, I’m suggesting exactly that.

Summer: Jack filled us in, and I spoke to victoria briefly. It’s sickening the way that he lied to her.

Kyle: Yeah, we ran into ashland, too. Made it clear we didn’t want him around.

Victor: You did the right thing, I assure you. Anyway, let’s talk about more pleasant things. How’s your boy?

Summer: [ Chuckles ] He is the cutest, sweetest little boy in either hemisphere.

Victor: In either?

Summer: Yes.

Victor: I see.

Summer: He’s got these little knights that he’s always sending into battle. I think that he’s gonna be a natural at chess.

Victor: Oh, well, in that case, send him over to the ranch. Just the right age to learn chess, you know.

Summer: Thank you.

Victor: And I bet you, being bright and curious as he is, he’ll learn quickly.

Summer: We will.

Victor: You bet. So I just saw your mother. She told me that she hadn’t left town because she was waiting for you to tell her what to do.

Kyle: Finding out she was alive was a bit of a shock. I’ve been sorting through a lot.

Victor: Yeah. I remember, sadly…when she abandoned you.

Kyle: I mean, is what she did infuriating and hurtful? Of course, but we only get one mother. I mean, I don’t know if I’m prepared to cut her out of my life before I try to give her a chance to redeem herself.

Victor: You bet. Nice to see you, kyle. So what do you think about diane jenkins being back in town? You know, she, um…she angered a lot of people. And she traumatized kyle when he was a boy — you know that.

Summer: You can’t tell me anything about diane that i haven’t heard already from my mother.

Victor: I bet. There’s one thing phyllis and i have always agreed on — diane jenkins is a very dangerous woman, you know. And she hasn’t changed. She’s gonna cause a lot of people a lot of trouble. And I want you to make sure that you make kyle aware of that. He must not forget what happened.

Diane: Thank you. Oh, wow. Looks like your day isn’t going any better than mine.

Ashland: Yeah, well, I just came from jack’s place, and he is siding with kyle and summer and not letting me see harrison.

Diane: The abbotts do have a tendency to circle the wagons.

Ashland: Yeah. I — it floors me that they think that they have to protect harrison from me, right? I mean, I have loved that child since he took his first breath, and they’re acting like finding out that I’m not his biological father will make him forget that somehow.

Diane: I’ve met harrison. I have no doubt that he was surrounded by love from day one. You can tell by his sweet, trusting nature.

Phyllis: Oh, look at this. Of course you two would find each other. Game recognizes lying, cheating game, am I right?

Devon: What are you looking, dominic? What is that? You looking at that cloud right there? Looks like a flamingo, huh?

Abby: I have to see if I can get him to make this expression. He does it and he looks so much like you.

Devon: Does he really?

Abby: Yes.

Devon: I want to see. What expression is it?

Abby: Well, it’s when I play him that song “baby shark” — you know the song.

Devon: Oh, no, please don’t sing it. Do not sing it. I don’t need it stuck in my head all day.

Abby: Yes, that’s it, that’s the face that dominic makes.

Devon: He makes this one? I bet he does, ’cause he doesn’t want to hear it either. It’s like a form of child abuse. “Don’t play that for me, mommy.”

Abby: You know, if you had told me years ago that this is where we’d be today…

Devon: It’s crazy, huh?

Abby: Big time.

Devon: I know. It’s really great, though.

Abby: Yeah.

Nate: Now, that’s what I call a productive morning.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] You must be so proud planning this party, since it was your idea.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] But the merger was your idea, so you must be even more excited.

Lily: No, yeah, it’s been good. It’s been fun. And we did good work today, right? Well, anyway, I think we’ll wait for devon to get here before we finalize some things, and, oh, is elena coming to the party?

Nate: Not sure. That’s the downside of me not being at memorial. I can’t set her schedule anymore.

Lily: Yeah, it’s a bummer.

Nate: Yeah, she wants to be there. I got to say, elena’s been very supportive of my career change, even though it means we see less of each other.

Imani: Yeah, nate and I have all sorts of things in common.

Chance: Yeah. Song?

Ashland: I was thinking about grabbing a cup of coffee at the restaurant. Do you want to join me?

Phyllis: She can’t join you. It’s almost checkout time. She needs to leave.

Diane: Thank you for the hourly reminders, phyllis. Very helpful.

Phyllis: On second thought, you know, go, have your coffee, enjoy yourself. I’ll just get a bellman to go to your room and throw your stuff on the sidewalk or throw it out the window. I don’t know, whatever works.

Diane: I’ll handle it myself.

[ Sighs ]

Ashland: [ Chuckles ]

Diane: I think I’ll have to decline your kind offer for coffee.

Ashland: Wow, okay. Another time.

Diane: Yeah. Well, I’m — I don’t know. As soon as I check out, I think I’m heading straight to the airport to fly back to los angeles. Unless I hear from kyle before then, which, sad to say, I don’t expect to.

Kyle: Hey. I didn’t mean to be gone so long.

Summer: Oh, grandpa said to tell you goodbye. He needed to be somewhere. He wasn’t upset or anything.

Kyle: Good.

Summer: So tell me about your call.

Kyle: I asked jabot’s cfo about our liquidity. Kept it very low-key.

Summer: With all the debt that marchetti’s carrying, it’s a big factor.

Kyle: The news is good. Not only is it possible to purchase the company, but it also makes sense tax-wise.

Summer: So you’re saying we have a winner?

Kyle: Financially, yes. Along with other obvious synergies.

Summer: [ Sighs ] Feels like everything is falling into place. We have a solid case to present to your dad for this acquisition, provided you still feel good about moving back home.

Kyle: I do. I’ve been thinking about what it means to have harrison grow up around grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, surrounded by love. I lost my granddad early on, and I didn’t get to know dina until it was almost too late.

Summer: It would be great for harrison to be surrounded by extended family. But that doesn’t have to include diane.

Kyle: I take it victor had something to say about that while I was on the phone.

Summer: [ Sighs ]

Kyle: Look, I hate the position you’re in. Everyone pressuring you to pressure me.

Summer: I can handle it, and I’m not trying to sway your decision either way.

Kyle: No, I realize that.

Summer: I just want you to weigh all of the factors, just like we’re doing for this potential move back to genoa city.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] I’m trying my best.

Summer: I can see how hopeful you are that harrison might be able to experience the best of diane without suffering the worst. But do you think that that’s possible? And is it worth the risk?

Kyle: Look, all I know is i need to make up my mind. It’s not fair to you or my mother to keep living in this limbo. I need to make a choice one way or the other and live with the consequences. No matter who you are,

Abby: Hey, stop! You cannot teach our son to behave that way. He’ll never be invited on play dates.

Abby: Oh, well, he must get it from devon, ’cause he certainly does not get it from me.

[ Chuckles ] I’m sorry. I wasn’t trying to bring up any sensitive issues.

Chance: What? No. No, no, no, that’s just a fact, right? Devon’s his biological father. He inherited a whole lot of things from him, and probably gonna see that a lot more as he gets older. It’s fine.

Abby: Really?

Chance: Yeah. I mean, look, abby, I’m feeling a lot more confident in my role in his life, you know? Haven’t you noticed a difference in the way we interact? I mean, things just feel a little bit more easier, right? Much more natural.

Abby: Yeah, I had noticed, but I was hoping it wasn’t just wishful thinking. I’ve been praying that you guys would share the same emotional connection that I have with dominic.

Devon: Okay, cool. Where do we stand?

Lily: Phyllis sent menus. We narrowed it down to two.

Nate: We’ll need your input on the guest list, as well. But we’re looking good. Vips all confirmed. The governor has a conflict, but other than that, we’ve gotten all yeses.

Devon: That’s excellent.

Lily: I also sent you the overall budget for the party, too.

Devon: Okay.

Lily: And what else?

Nate: Programs. I pulled in some ad folks to help with copy. We should have mock-ups tomorrow.

Devon: That’s perfect. Sounds like you guys have everything under control.

Lily: Yeah, for sure. We’re definitely ahead of schedule. Which is great ’cause I can’t put off this meeting with jill any longer.

Devon: Is she coming to town?

Lily: No, she’s been traveling in the pacific, so I’m gonna meet her in san diego. Fly out tonight and be back as soon as possible.

Devon: Nice. Nice, give her my love when you see her.

Lily: I will.

Devon: So back to the event, what are you guys thinking in terms of music?

Lily: Oh, actually, nate had a great idea, if you want to share.

Nate: Thank you, lily. So instead of your standard band or deejay, I thought why not feature some of the newer artists from your record label. You know, make a real showcase out of it. The exposure would be phenome–

Devon: I’m gonna stop you for a second.

Nate: Problem?

Devon: Did you not think to run this by me before bringing it up to lily?

Lily: No, no, no, this came up spontaneously in our conversation. No, I mean, I think it’s a great idea. It’s a great way to promote our media and entertainment division.

Devon: I mean, yeah, it might be, but this is my area of expertise. This is part of the company that I handle, and there may be some drawbacks that you didn’t consider.

Nate: Well, I’m open to any and all feedback.

Devon: It’s okay, we don’t need to get into it right now. It’s fine. I know since you’re going out of town, we need to focus on finalizing the plans, so…

Nate: Well, I’m sorry if i overstepped, devon.

Devon: It’s not a big deal. It’s really not. We’re all new to working together, so it’s fine. You’re still learning.

Phyllis: Checking out? That’s your luggage?

Diane: [ Sighs ] Could you excuse us? Honestly, kyle, that depends on you. If you need me to give you more space so you can think things through, then I’ll just head to the airport and go back to los angeles.

Devon: No, no, I got it under control. It’s fine. You’ve been working hard. It’s a real nice day. You should get out and enjoy it.

Nate: [ Sighs ]

Imani: Thought you could use a little pick-me-up.

Nate: [ Chuckles ]

Imani: We newbies need to stick together.

Nate: Guess you heard me step in it earlier.

Imani: Uh, yeah, it’s happened to me more than once. I love my new job, so I’m eager to contribute, but then I’ll get a little look or a nudge from amanda, tapping the brakes, reining me in.

Nate: Hmm. I’ve got to learn about business. I never claimed otherwise.

Imani: Don’t get me wrong. I — I respect amanda’s accomplishments and I am so grateful to her as my mentor, and look, I know I would not have this job if it weren’t for her. But still, those moments of getting knocked down a few pegs, it could — it could take its toll on you.

Nate: Yeah, I hear you. We’ll figure it out, though. We both just started a bit behind the curve, that’s all.

Imani: You honestly think that’s all that it’s about? Because I don’T.

Imani: I don’t know a lot about your history with devon, but you obviously know mine with amanda.

Nate: The broad strokes.

Imani: There’s still a little friction between the two of us that comes out, like the other night when we were worried about my mother.

Nate: Mm.

Imani: Which makes sense, in a way.

Nate: Sure it does. A-fib is scary stuff.

Imani: Even beyond that, it goes to how we were each raised. I was raised with two loving parents who gave me every advantage, and amanda, she had a harder life. And then when we met, I was such a brat. No, really, I own it. I was pretty damn mean to her. And amanda’s forgiven that, but I doubt she’s forgotten.

Nate: Hmm.

Imani: Can’t help feeling there’s a, I don’t know, some undercurrent of resentment — well, that seems too strong of a word, but something.

Nate: Yeah, there are some similarities to my history with devon.

Imani: Really?

Nate: Well, I grew up with a loving, protective mother and lily and her family, whereas devon was in and out of foster homes, always an outside, like amanda. And, obviously, I crossed a line with elena.

Imani: Mm, yes, elena told me all about that.

[ Chuckles ]

Nate: Though it worked out for the best eventually.

Imani: Hmm. Do you think that devon still might have a little chip on his shoulder?

Nate: [ Sighs ] I wouldn’t be surprised.

Imani: [ Exhales sharply ] That’s got to be frustrating, if it’s just gonna pop up when you least expect it and you’re just trying to do your best.

Nate: Well, even though if that’s part of what’s going on, I doubt devon’s consciously aware of it. We’re in a good place, mostly. Better than I thought would’ve been possible, given how at odds we were at one point.

Imani: Mm. I think that speaks to how much devon values having you in his life. I think things are gonna be fine between you two, and for me and my sister.

Billy: Hello, baby. How’s your day been so far?

Lily: Um, not bad. How about yours?

Billy: It is good. Getting some fresh numbers in from the marketing team, and it looks like awareness for the merger is up 7% from last week. That’s good news.

Lily: Yeah, that’s great.

Billy: Yeah, and on a personal note, I ran into chance at the coffee house. He said that he listened to my podcast and that he really liked it and it resonated with him. Which, you know, felt kind of good. It’s nice to know that you’ve put something out there, you get vulnerable, and like I said from the beginning, if you help one person, right?

Lily: Yeah, well, I’m glad.

Billy: You are? You sure? What’s going on?

Lily: Well, I’M…confused.

Billy: About what?

Lily: Well, ’cause when i asked you how you felt about running the company with my family, you told me you had to think through it on your own, but apparently that meant talking about it on your podcast in front of an audience instead of with me.

Kyle: Hey.

Summer: Hey. Did you find diane?

Kyle: I did.

Summer: And? How did it go?

Kyle: I asked her to stay.

Summer: Wow. Okay.

Kyle: Look, I’m still gonna take things slowly, I just want to see how much of a relationship we can salvage.

Summer: I get it. It would be hard to walk away with so many unanswered questions.

Kyle: And there are a few things I want to talk to you about. First, I’m putting my mother up at the athletic club. She didn’t ask me to, but I can tell money is a concern. And since I’m the one asking her to stay, I feel responsible. And she has this empty house sitting in la.

Summer: Mortgage plus a hotel room, that’s a big cost.

Kyle: Thank you for understanding. I also didn’t want to put my mother in a situation where she felt desperate.

Summer: Wise idea, because when diane gets desperate, she tends to make bad choices.

Kyle: Well, there’s more to it than that. When I was a kid, I wanted to be able to give her the money to solve her financial problems, and now I can. Or at least help. It feels good.

Summer: That’s actually touching. But you know how the rest of the family’s gonna interpret it, right?

Kyle: That she’s using me.

Summer: I can just hear my mother right now.

Kyle: That’s the other thing I wanted to talk to you about. Phyllis knows my mother is staying. She was in the lobby when i asked her, and she did not look happy.

Summer: Oh.

Jack: What a nice sur– uh-oh, something’s wrong.

Phyllis: Please, please take a minute to talk me off the ledge before I completely lose my mind. I have moderate to severe ulcerative colitis.

Billy: Look, I know this might sound a little bit bizarre, but doing these podcasts, saying it out loud like that, it’s been my form of journaling or therapy, and it’s been surprisingly effective.

Lily: So more effective than talking things out than me?

Billy: Clearly, I have hurt you, and I am sorry. That was never my intention.

Lily: Yeah, I am hurt, but do you see how I’m talking to you about it instead of sharing it with the world? That’s what couples do. But instead, you’re giving me this happy talk, and then you’re shutting me out.

Billy: Look, I don’t — i don’t feel like that’s what I’m doing.

Lily: Okay, you know what? You’re right. I’ll go listen to your podcast with thousands of people and learn your real feelings, and that makes me feel very special.

Billy: Come on, hey, listen. Can we take a step back for a second? Okay? Let me be very clear. You are the most important person in my life right now, okay?

[ Sighs ] And maybe I wasn’t completely truthful, but that’s only because I hadn’t figured out what I was feeling yet. But now I have, so it’s nothing that you need to worry about, and let me just say this. My little problems are not yours to solve. I’m not gonna make that your responsibility.

Lily: No, I understand that, and I appreciate it, but this does need to get solved. We’re at a very critical point in a huge project, and I’m counting on you to keep things on track, especially while I’m out of town. So if you don’t like your position or if you want to change something, then I hope that you can be up-front about it.

Billy: You have nothing to worry about. I am up for the challenge. I promise you, okay? Anything I was dealing with, i dealt with it. You have my word.

Summer: I can’t believe my mom’s not already blowing up my phone with warnings of letting diane into our lives.

Kyle: Well, I go to her and explain my decision. It was my choice. I’ll take the heat.

Summer: No, it’s okay. I can handle it. I’ll just let her know that we’re going to be careful. We’re not gonna let diane get away with anything manipulative or sneaky, because that’s true. Right?

Kyle: Absolutely. Maybe you should tell her that we’re thinking about moving back to town. She’ll be super excited and maybe it’ll distract her. It’s worth a shot. Don’t you think?

Summer: That might help a little, but don’t underestimate how much my mother loathes yours. She is probably freaking out right now.

Phyllis: This is a colossal mistake. You give that woman an inch and she completely takes advantage of it.

Jack: You’re the one that insisted kyle has to make his own decision.

Phyllis: You know why that is? Because I thought your son was intelligent enough to make a smart decision.

Jack: Phyllis —

Phyllis: Obviously, he’s not. I thought he was smart enough to see that this woman is completely destructive.

Jack: Phyllis, you need —

Phyllis: We’re gonna look back on this and we’re gonna realize that we’re complete idiots.

Jack: You need to calm —

Phyllis: I’m not gonna calm down!

[ Exhales sharply ] This is a disaster waiting to happen, jack.

Jack: I know you want to protect the kids. So do I. But they are grown adults now. There is only so much we can do. Kyle knows how much he has to lose. Kyle did not make this decision lightly.

Phyllis: Why are you so even-keeled about this?

Jack: I don’t really have much choice.

Phyllis: I’m not going to accept this. Okay?

Jack: What is it that you think that diane is going to do?

Phyllis: What do I think she’s gonna do? I don’t know. See, I don’t know, because she is so unpredictable. Oh, my — I’m unraveling.

[ Exhales sharply ] I am not doing well with this. Okay? Listen, things are going so great between us, finally.

Jack: Wait, finally? You sound impatient. I thought we were on the same page. Until the other night, we were gonna not be forced —

Phyllis: I know, I know. We’re not forced into anything. We took it slow, and that’s a good thing. Right? But we admitted our feelings for each other and now we’re good. Right? Everything is good. It’s good, right?

Jack: I happen to be very happy with the way things have turned out.

Phyllis: Okay. See? What I’m upset about… I don’t want anyone coming into our life and ruining it. That’s what I’m impatient about.

Jack: That’s not going to happen.

Diane: Yes, much too nice to stay cooped up inside. Actually, I was hoping that kyle and summer might feel the same way. I ran into them here yesterday with harrison. I thought I might get lucky again.

Traci: Well, I’m sorry to disappoint you, but harrison’s gonna be busy elsewhere today. Summer found a children’s musical activity she thought he would just love.

Summer: No, I mean, we didn’t buy it for a second. It’s kind of hard to believe that diane just happened to be at the park when kyle and I were there with harrison.

Phyllis: Yeah, right. Well, good for you. Don’t believe anything she says. She’s a liar. I hope you told jack.

Summer: Of course we did.

Phyllis: Good. Good. Because her, you know, showing up at the park and showing up at the wedding, those are all red flags. He needs to keep his guard up.

Summer: Okay, how did this suddenly become about jack?

Phyllis: Because jack needs to protect his family and his grandson, harrison. He needs to protect everyone. He needs to stay vigilant. I mean, this woman, she just cuts through all boundaries. Just —

Summer: And you want to protect jack.

Phyllis: Yeah, of course i want to protect jack.

Summer: I mean, I get it. He’s your friend. You’re looking out for a friend.

Phyllis: Yeah, I’m looking out for — okay, um…hmm. I mean, jack and I — jack and i may be a little more than friends. It just — these days.

Summer: Wait, are you — mom, are you trying to tell me that you’re sleeping with my father-in-law?

Jack: Hey, I was wondering where you and summer were.

Kyle: She dropped harrison and the nanny off at a kids’ thing, and then went to see her mom.

Jack: I’m glad she’s spending some time with phyllis. Her mother has missed having her close by.

Kyle: Mm, it goes both ways. She worries about her mom being too lonely, and we’re glad you’ve been keeping phyllis company.

Jack: I’m not the only one. She’s got plenty of friends.

Kyle: Come on. I saw the dynamic between you two at the wedding. And come to think of it, you never did say why you were out so late afterward.

Jack: I think I know where this is headed, and I’m gonna stop you right now, because it’s none of your business.

Kyle: Ah, there it is. All the confirmation I need that you two must have been together.

Nikki: So, mr. Chairman of the board, you don’t have to worry about your co-ceos being out of the country.

Victoria: That’s right. We’ll be in frequent communication with the executive team. The minneapolis deal will be finalized, and the real-estate negotiations will continue as well.

Victor: Well, you didn’t have to go into all that detail. I trust that both of you will handle things.

Victoria: I just want to make sure that you’re very clear that we have everything under control so that if the thought that you might need to bring adam in as temporary ceo —

Diane: It was so moving seeing kyle with his family yesterday. My little boy all grown up, a husband and a father himself. It was amazing. And summer was so good with harrison. You would never guess he wasn’t her child.

Traci: Well, yes, they have a very deep bond. Harrison was really close to his biological mother, and I’m sure that it was quite bewildering for him when she left so abruptly. Fortunately, he was way too young to realize she was being arrested, but [Sighs] I’m sure that it’s been really hard for his little mind to comprehend.

Diane: Yeah, he must miss her desperately.

Traci: But summer has really stepped up. She filled the void in his heart. She and kyle have given him all the love and security he so desperately needed. I — it’s obvious. Otherwise, he’d be a very different child today.

Diane: I don’t need to be reminded how much it hurt kyle when I left. I live with that pain every day.

Phyllis: You’re not upset that I’m spending time with jack, are you?

Summer: Uh…I’m just kidding, mom. I mean, it’s pretty obvious that jack is way more to you than just my father-in-law. I mean, you guys go way back, long before I was even born. Plus, jack is the best. I mean, he’s kind and wonderful. And I know that he’ll be careful with your heart.

Phyllis: Yeah. Yeah, he will. We’re taking it slow. I mean, it’s very, very new. Um…you know, we haven’t told the general public about this, by the way.

Summer: Is that because you’re worried about people judging you and dredging up your painful history?

Phyllis: Uh-huh, yeah. But, you know, summer, I’m — I’m a different woman now. You know, I’m a new woman. You know, I’m a woman that’s — that’s good for jack now. You know? And jack trusts me.

Summer: Good.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Summer: I mean, you deserve this, mom.

Phyllis: Okay.

Summer: You really do. You both do.

Kyle: Come on, dad, there’s no reason in holding back. Summer’s with her mom right now, and you know she’ll return with all the details, anyway.

Jack: Okay, fine. Phyllis and I are merely testing the waters.

[ Laughs ] Alright, alright, I’ll stop giving you a hard time. I actually think it’s great news. Summer and I have thought for a while now that you and phyllis still had a connection. It’s about time you guys went for it.

Traci: Diane, I am not making comparisons between you and harrison’s biological mother. That might be your conscience talking. But I would never want to make you feel worse than you already do. I believe you that you’re sincere, you have regrets about choices you made in your past. I would never pile anything else on.

Diane: I apologize. I just — I just jumped to conclusions. I…

[ Sighs ] Lately, everywhere I turn, i face hostility, and I know i deserve every bit of it and I — I thought I was prepared to face it, but just the constant incoming fire has me — just has me feeling a little defensive.

Traci: Okay. I understand that this is a very difficult situation. But, diane, you have literally had years to reconcile the past and put everything in perspective, and the people that you’re dealing with now, they’re just — they’re just trying to organize the idea that you really exist. They’re trying to wrap their minds around the fact that you faked your own death.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Traci: I mean, you’ve opened up some old wounds. You might want to pace yourself.

Diane: You’re not the first person to advise me to be patient.

[ Sighs ] I keep reminding myself that i am not entitled to anyone’s forgiveness, that it’s something I have to earn if I want to be accepted again.

Traci: Exactly, and it’s not gonna be easy.

Diane: No, and it’s not going to take overnight, considering all that I have to make up for.

[ Sighs ] But seeing kyle with his family, I could just envision myself being part of it. You know? That’s — that’s all i want. I just want to be there for him now the way I should’ve been all along.

Jack: So you and summer are moving back home? I’m almost afraid to hope.

Kyle: No, no, no, no. You don’t get to change the subject that easily. Something’s off here.

Jack: What does that mean?

Kyle: You and phyllis have been growing closer for months. At mariah and tessa’s wedding, you two were dancing and smiling like you were the newlyweds.

Jack: I wouldn’t go that far.

Kyle: And now that you’ve taken things to the next level, you’re kind of downplaying the whole thing. What’s up with that?

Jack: What do you expect, gene kelly dancing in the rain?

Kyle: Don’t tell me there are problems already.

Jack: No, no. No, I am delighted with the way things are going. We just don’t know where they’re going yet.

Kyle: See, there it is again. Why do you keep anticipating that everything could go off the rails? Usually, someone in a new-again relationship is optimistic and anticipating nothing but happy days ahead.

Jack: When you get to this stage in life, you know better than to get ahead of yourself. I am going to enjoy this — whatever “this” may be.

Kyle: Okay. If there were to be a problem, what do you think it would be?

Phyllis: Okay, enough about me and jack, enough about that. So let’s get back to diane. So, at the park, how’d she act? I mean, did she get — did she get in front of harrison and say, “hi, I’m your grandma”? Did she do that?

Summer: No, I mean, diane was on her best behavior, and it really moved kyle. He couldn’t help it. It reminded him of how she was with him when he was harrison’s age.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. Right. I see what she’s doing. She’s doing the sweet act. That’s what she’s doing.

Summer: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: She knows to take someone’s vulnerabilities and to exploit them, and you know what? She’s gonna do the same thing with jack.

Summer: How?

Phyllis: She knows that jack adores his grandson, so she’s gonna use harrison. It’s their common bond. “We have a grandson, jack. That’s what we share together.”

Summer: Okay, you’re not worried that diane’s a threat to your relationship with jack, are you?

Phyllis: Of course not.

Summer: Okay, good, because there’s no chance in hell that that would ever happen.

Ashland: I’m sure you’re not interested in hearing me out, but I’m hoping you will, because I owe you an apology.

Victor: Should be entertaining. Hope you have a good story. Sit down.

Ashland: I doubt you’ll trust anything I have to say, but i feel compelled to say it anyway out loud and for the record.

Victor: Hmm. That’s a hell of a preamble. Proceed.

Ashland: What I did to victoria was despicable. It was horrible, and I’ll regret it to my dying day.

Victor: You mean till the day that you actually die, is that it?

Ashland: Your daughter is the best thing that ever happened to me. And I should have treasured her. I did, in fact, but unfortunately, that realization came too late. And now because of my own greed and my own arrogance, I may have lost her.

Victor: Not “may.” You did lose her, ashland locke. What you did was unforgivable. And she will never forgive you. What can I du with less asthma?

Phyllis: I’m not concerned about diane. I know how to handle diane.

Summer: Well, you know that jack is only tolerating her for kyle’s sake, because he believes that he has a right to make his own decision about her.

Phyllis: Yeah, but guess what? I’m the one who told jack to do that in the first place, by the way.

Summer: But, I mean, given her horrible track record and all of the underhanded things she’s pulled, you’ve got to know that she holds no appeal to him.

Phyllis: No, I get it, but you know what? Jack, he, when he found out that she was alive, wanted to cut her out of the family completely.

Summer: Well, that ought to tell you everything you need to know.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] I know this woman, summer. I have history with this woman. She is a horrible human being. Horrible. But she is a genius at psychological warfare.

Summer: Mom, you are pretty good at that yourself.

Phyllis: Thank you. So you already said that she’s making inroads with kyle, right? You said that just now. That’s what she does. She takes any little soft spot, any little weakness, and she exploits it, and she’s gonna do the same with jack.

Summer: But jack already knows how devious she can be.

Phyllis: No, he is doubting his instincts, summer. He’s already doubting his instincts. I was talking to him the other day, and he was saying, “oh, maybe we should consider that diane has really changed.” I mean, no, I can’t do that. This is really concerning me.

Summer: Mom —

Phyllis: I can’t go through this again.

[ Sighs ]

Summer: Mom, look at yourself. You’re getting so wound up. I mean, you may think that constantly on edge is the best way to protect your relationship with jack, but it is not. It’s self-sabotage.

Jack: I’m not suggesting things could fall apart for phyllis and me. Far from it. If that were the case, I would never have let it get this far. I’m just done trying to predict the future. And that’s not a bad thing. It has left me open to some pretty fabulous surprises. Among them, what happened the other night.

Kyle: Wait, that was a surprise? Really?

Jack: I know you and summer are busy patting yourselves on the back for seeing all of this coming, but it could just as easily have gone the other way. In fact, we came very close to deciding it wasn’t worth the risk, that we were gonna just try to save our friendship, and until very recently, phyllis was more likely to err on the side of caution.

Kyle: Okay. What’s different now?

Jack: Honestly, I keep asking myself the same question. Why the sudden change of heart. Is it just a coincidence that it all seemed to happen when diane walked back into our lives?

Diane: [ Sighs ] Traci, by any chance, have you spoken to kyle or summer about me? I mean, have they given you any idea which way they’re leaning? May– maybe they’re open to forgiving me or not?

Traci: [ Sighs ] I am so sorry. I know that this is a very difficult situation for everyone. And I feel for you, but I don’t want to mislead you in any way.

Diane: Oh, no, I understand. I’m — I’m not asking you to betray any confidences. I just wondered if there was anything at all you could tell me.

Traci: The only thing I can say is what kyle has told you himself. He’s torn, and he’s gonna need some time to process his feelings. And this is not a decision he would ever make lightly.

Diane: No, that’s the sense I’ve been getting from him as well. My son is a very serious and thoughtful young man. I’m sure he’s going to consider all the ramifications before he makes up his mind.

Traci: That’s my nephew.

Diane: Yes, I think if it was just the two of us, he might’ve already decided to give me a second chance, but with his wife and son, he — he needs to take everything into account.

Traci: Diane, rather than worry about all of this stuff, I wish you could take solace in the amazing young man your son has grown up to be. He is someone that you can be so proud of. And whatever decision he ultimately makes, it will be because he has thought it out, thought it through, and knows in his heart it’s the right one for himself and for everyone he loves.

Diane: And I promise, whichever way he goes, I will respect it.

Traci: And the abbotts will, too. Now, I really do have to get going.

Diane: Oh, traci, thank you for taking the time to talk with me. It really means a lot, especially since there are so few people in this town that have anything to say to me at all.

Traci: Diane, you said it yourself — you have a lot to make up for.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Victor: That’s a hell of an apology.

[ Chuckles ] Pathetic. You better get out of town because no one here wants anything to do with you, least of all victoria. She’s sick and tired of your glib apologies, your glib promises.

Ashland: You know, in the past, we talked about what we have in common. Our backgrounds, our outlook on life.

Victor: Has it ever occurred to you that I might have suspected that you did that to manipulate me into feeling sympathetic with you, to gain my confidence?

Ashland: You’re wrong. I freely admit I lied about the cancer, I lied about the treatment, but the rest of it — the abusive father, starting out with less than nothing — that was all true.

Victor: Have you ever listened to yourself? You lied about your cancer. That comes across your lips like nothing. Who does that? Who lies about cancer? And now you’re using your miserable childhood as an excuse?

Ashland: No. Men like us don’t hide behind excuses. We own up to our mistakes. In fact, you wouldn’t be where you are in your life today if it hadn’t been for your wife and your children forgiving you for some pretty ugly sins of your own.

Victor: Do me a favor. Stop comparing yourself with me. Is that an attempt to win some points with victoria? She’ll laugh at you.

Ashland: You seem to be forgetting something — victoria loves me.

Victor: Oh. She trusted you, she loved you — past tense. You lied to her! I will never forgive you for that. You broke her heart. You broke my daughter’s heart. Now you get the hell out of town, or else.

Ashland: That sounds like a threat.

Victor: That’s not a threat, that’s a guarantee. I will do anything in my power to protect my family. One piece of advice for you — don’t you push me to that point.

Kyle: Why would there be a connection between my mother coming back and you and phyllis getting together?

Jack: I’m just struck by the timing, and keep in mind, there is a lot of contentious history between the two of them.

Kyle: Okay, are you saying they’re at it again?

Jack: No, I’m saying phyllis wants her out of town, and she has told her as much, adamantly insisting it happen soon. I just can’t help but wonder if, maybe subconsciously, she’s trying to tell diane that there is nothing for her here if she decides to stick around.

Kyle: Does she think my mother came back hoping to make something happen with you? Wait, do you think that?

Jack: No, there’s no hint that that’s where diane’s thinking is these days, but, even if that were the case, it wouldn’t matter. It’s not gonna happen in 1,000 years. And…the two of them are just naturally competitive with each other.

Kyle: But you don’t think that’s why phyllis spent the night with you?

Jack: No. No, of — no, don’t get me wrong. I’m very clear on how phyllis feels about me. She’s — she’s made it quite clear.

Kyle: You’re veering dangerously close to the tmi land.

Jack: Then let’s change the subject. What’s going on with you and your mother?

Kyle: [ Sighs ] Every day, there’s a little moment or incident that makes me think she might really be sincere. But I can’t help wondering if I’m just seeing what I want to see.

Jack: Sounds like you’re trying to justify actually giving her another chance.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] Sorry, dad. I know that’s not what you and definitely not phyllis want to hear, but that’s honestly where I am.

Phyllis: Self-sabotage — seriously? Summer, really? That’s not what I’m doing, by the way. I’m keeping a watchful eye on diane.

Summer: And on jack. I mean, you’ve already admitted that you’re monitoring his reactions to her. You’re worried about her tugging on his heartstrings. And you’re looking out for any sign that her old tricks are working on him. I mean, it kind of sounds like… oh.

Phyllis: “Oh,” what?

Summer: Is that why you dove back into this romance with jack? Was it a jealousy thing?

Phyllis: Are you serious right now? Really? I mean, why does everybody think that? Why does everybody think that i would be with jack because of diane, that viper? I mean, amanda, she insinuated the same thing, and by the way, no is the answer. No, you’re both wrong.

Summer: Okay. I mean, if you say so.

Phyllis: Okay? Thank you. I would never do something like that. I would never use jack just to get back at diane. Oh, my gosh, is that what you think of me?

Summer: Look, all I know is that you do have a tendency to obsess and then overreact.

Phyllis: Okay, I’m not doing that. I’m not overreacting right now. Okay? My relationship with jack is built on — on honesty and — and trust. You know, it has nothing to do with diane. Nothing to do with her.

Summer: Okay. I’m glad to hear it.

Phyllis: Good. Good. I don’t — I don’t want to talk about this. This is — this — this whole conversation is screwing up my mother-daughter time with you. Let’s talk about something else, please.

Summer: Okay, what would you like to discuss?

Phyllis: Marchetti. Let’s talk about marchetti.

Summer: Okay. Well, I don’t know, let’s just say that maybe it was a good thing that you didn’t accept my offer to come out to milan.

Phyllis: Oh, really? Why?

Summer: I don’t really want to talk about it right now, but just know that, one way or another, I’m gonna figure it out.

Phyllis: Alright. I believe in you.

[ Chuckles ] So what about harrison? I mean, can we talk about harrison? Is he a safe subject?

[ Both laugh ] Is he enjoying his grandpa jack?

Summer: Oh, my gosh, yes, he is. I mean, grandpa jack spoils him so much, I can’t even believe it. And somehow, somehow, he seems blissfully unaware of all the turmoil that’s going on around him, but I just don’t know how we’re gonna explain this whole ashland thing to him.

Phyllis: Oh, ashland thing? Oh, wow, I thought something was going on between ashland and victoria, because he’s staying here.

Summer: Wait, are you kidding right now? You don’t know about this?

Phyllis: No. About what? Wait, I’m totally out of the loop.

Summer: [ Scoffs ] Apparently, ashland lied about having cancer. It was all a hoax.

Diane: Thank you.

Nikki: You’re still in town, despite everyone’s advice and warnings. What’s the hold-up? Is your broomstick in for repairs?

Diane: [ Scoffs ] “Advice”? “Warnings”? I think the word you’re looking for is threats. And, yes, I’ve ignored every one of them because the only opinion that matters to me is my son’S.

Nikki: Oh, really? Well, I highly doubt it’s kyle’s opinion that matters to you, as opposed to his bank account. Hey, it’s me…your skin.

Phyllis: This is rich. I could’ve called this one. Seriously. The locke ness monster — what a horrible person he is, using cancer.

Summer: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: Using cancer to trick victoria into marrying him so he could take over the company. Amazing.

Summer: It’s beyond heartless.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. It’s beyond. How’s victoria? Is she okay?

Summer: Mm, well, we ran into her at the park right after we laid down the law with ashland, and she covered pretty well, but she must be in a state of shock underneath it all.

Phyllis: I mean, I bet she’s thinking of all those times billy and nick tried to talk her out of marrying him. You know? Telling her repeatedly, “don’t trust him.” I bet this is keeping her up at night.

Summer: Mom, I hope that there’s not even a tiny part of you that is enjoying this.

Phyllis: No. Of course not. This is horrible. I would never wish this upon my worst enemy. I mean, victoria and I, we’re not friends, but this has got to be so painful. How’s nick taking it?

Summer: We haven’t really had a chance to discuss it yet. I mean, it’s not like he was gonna bring it up at mariah and tessa’s wedding reception, and before that, he probably didn’t want to upset me when I was thousands of miles away.

Phyllis: Yeah, I mean, there’s nothing you can do about it.

Summer: But obviously this affects harrison, too. I mean, kyle and I are going to have to do everything we can to protect him from this man who clearly has zero compassion or ethics.

Phyllis: This is a lot for you to deal with, babe. It is. It’s a lot.

Summer: Yeah.

Phyllis: Fending off diane and ashland at the same time.

Summer: Don’t worry, mom. We’ve got this.

Phyllis: You might think you’ve got this. You don’t know who you’re dealing with.

Kyle: I guess I should be grateful that ashland allowed harrison to leave the country while he tried to get his greedy claws into newman enterprises, but it just disgusts me. It’s proof he never cared about harrison like he claimed. And that’s so sad for my son. At least now I don’t have to feel guilty about keeping them apart.

Jack: Oh, I think he’s still gonna put up quite a fight.

Kyle: Why would he? He no longer has to pretend harrison is important to him.

Jack: I’m sure the newmans are hoping he will slink off in defeat, but from my conversation with him, I don’t think that’s gonna happen. No, he wants to re-establish himself in harrison’s life. In fact, I think he looks at that boy as the only good thing that’s left in his life.

Kyle: Oh, so harrison is his back-up family now that he’s destroyed everything and his life has fallen apart? Well, I won’t stand for that.

Diane: I understand why you’re still angry. I know I have a long way to go to make up for the truly horrible things I’ve done.

Nikki: Well, guess what. I don’t want anything from you. All I want is for you to disappear. I mean, that is your specialty, right? Maybe this time you can manage to do it without stealing a corpse and framing half the people in this town for murder.

Diane: [ Scoffs ]

Nikki: Oh, I’m so sorry, am i embarrassing you? Oh, well, no, that can’t be because you and I both know that you have no shame. Otherwise, you would be long gone. Instead, you’re here, hanging around, hoping that the son you abandoned will take pity on you.

Diane: Please leave kyle out of this.

Nikki: Why should I? He’s the only one who can rescue you from the mess you’ve made of your life.

Diane: I don’t need rescuing. I rescued myself. I came back because I’m strong enough to handle —

Nikki: Okay, you know what, diane? Don’t bother with any more of your lies. We all know why you’re here. You are a professional gold-digger.

Diane: That’s not true.

Nikki: Oh, yes, it is true. Your new life didn’t work out the way you wanted it. Now you’re broke, so here you are throwing yourself at kyle’s feet, hoping you can con your way into the abbott fortune.

Diane: This has nothing to do with money.

Nikki: I suppose you can keep preying on his emotions if you like. But kyle is a very smart, savvy young man. He’s gonna see right through you. In fact, he’ll probably tell you to your face that he was better off when you were dead.

Diane: [ Gasps ]

Nikki: Ah!

Diane: Oh! Of course you’ve seen underwear that fits like this…

Phyllis: Summer, I don’t think you get this. I don’t think you realize how vicious and conniving diane can be. I mean, need I remind you that she tried to frame me for multiple felonies?

Summer: Mom, I am not underestimating her. If anything, she is the one that’s underestimating me. She is the one that doesn’t know who she’s dealing with. Because I inherited that protective gene from both sides of my family. So if she does come after us, she’s got a double dose of trouble just waiting for her.

Phyllis: I mean, I like to see this. I like to see this mama bear coming out.

Summer: Yeah, there is absolutely no way that I’m going to let that total narcissist hurt my little boy like she hurt my husband.

Phyllis: Okay, good, good. I mean, I hope she takes my subtle encouragement to leave and go back to la so you don’t have to deal with your mother-in-law anymore.

Summer: I’m dying to know what you said to her to encourage her to leave.

Phyllis: Well, don’t worry about that. You can thank me later if it works.

Kyle: So all of our divisions are back operating in the black.

Jack: After all the trouble locke put us through, we fought our way back.

Traci: Oh, good, you’re both here.

Jack: How was your walk?

Traci: It was good. A little windy and very interesting, as it turns out. I ran into diane at the park.

Kyle: What was she doing there?

Traci: Well, she was hoping for another chance encounter with you and harrison.

Jack: Well, I guess that’s better than her showing up here unannounced.

Kyle: I can’t believe my mother was just hanging out, hoping we’d pass by. What did she have to say?

Traci: It meant a lot to her to meet her grandson. Apparently, harrison has stolen her heart. But I also think that it has hit home in a whole new way how much she’s missed. So I told her that kyle needed a little more time to work through his decision.

Jack: Michael baldwin and i both gave her the same advice the other night after the wedding. Maybe I should’ve been more firm.

Kyle: Maybe it means i shouldn’t leave her hanging. It must feel like a defendant waiting for the jury to come back with a verdict.

Jack: Wait, none of this is your fault. She put herself in this situation.

Kyle: Yeah, that’s no excuse for me to drag this out.

Jack: Kyle, if you hear yourself putting her needs, her feelings ahead of your family’s, I hope alarm bells go off in your head. Keep in mind, she is an expert at focusing everyone’s attention on her.

Nikki: Don’t you ever raise your hand to me again.

Diane: Like this?

[ Both shouting indistinctly ]

Victoria: Mother! Stop it. Stop. What is going on? What? Diane? Oh, my god. How is this possible?

Diane: Oh, I thought everybody in town knew that i was alive and well. I’m surprised your parents didn’t tell you.

Nikki: I didn’t want to burden you with the pain of knowing that that bitch is not six feet under.

Diane: Oh, and congratulations on all your success. I followed your career from afar.

Victoria: Seriously? I come in here, you’re attacking my mother? You can spare your phony praise.

Sally: [ Sighs ] It is.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Hmm. You are concerned with matters of the heart because you know if we get victoria and ashland back together, my father will never see her the same way, and he will have no choice but to remove her from newman enterprises.

Sally: Not even close.

Adam: You got another fire for us to put out?

Sally: This is about an entirely different family business — chancellor-winters. They’re gonna be major competition for us, and I’m just wondering if there’s enough room in this town for both of us.

Lily: Okay, we have to do more than just come up with a playlist for the party.

Billy: Whoa, whoa, I’m sorry. This is not just a playlist.

Devon: No, not at all. This is the soundtrack for the entire event. It’s like one of the most important elements of the night.

Billy: And a major part of our branding. People are gonna hear this and they’re gonna think, “chancellor-winters.”

Devon: Yeah, and then all of a sudden, they’ll be dancing.

Billy: Ooh, they’re dancing. And balloons and confetti coming from the ceiling. We have a vendor for that, right?

Lily: We do, yes.

Billy: Okay, that’s right. Where are we dancing again?

Lily: Grand phoenix ballroom.

Devon: Hey, now.

Billy: It’s gonna be everywhere. It’s gonna represent us, and it needs to be good.

Devon: Absolutely. I think that it should represent family unity, right? We’re a new company, but we’re also familiar to people. Brother and sister.

Lily: Yep, forging a new legacy.

Devon: Yeah, I love that.

Amanda: Yeah, but she called us today and informed us that she’s having more frequent heart palpitations.

Imani: And I’m worried that this could be an indication of a more serious heart problem, which would put her at a higher risk for a stroke.

Amanda: But I am trying to warn imani not to jump to the worst possible conclusion.

Imani: I’m sorry we all can’t be stoic about this.

Amanda: Just because I don’t burst into tears at the mere mention of —

Imani: I’m scared, okay? And I am not gonna apologize for how I feel.

Amanda: I’m just saying that we should wait and see what her doctor has to say.

Amanda: No, not yet, but naya did give him permission to contact us, and he’s gonna share any information that he learns from her latest evaluation.

Nate: And how’s she doing otherwise?

Imani: According to mom, she’s been taking her medication religiously and keeping a careful record of her symptoms.

Nate: And there’s no previous indication of heart disease or any other serious condition?

Nate: Then it bears repeating that thousands of patients live with a-fib and it’s completely treatable.

Imani: Thanks.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Amanda: Oh, it’s — it’s mom’s doctor.

Nate: Take it.

Amanda: I’ll be right back. Hello? Yes, this is amanda sinclair.

Nate: Did you want that to be a three-way call?

Imani: No, amanda’s the right one for this. She’s better at keeping her heart out of the matter. When it comes to me and my mother, I get so emotional.

Nate: Yeah, I understand. I’m close to my mother as well.

Imani: Amanda cares for her very deeply, but it’s different for me. That woman raised me. She taught me everything I know. She’s been a part of my life since I took my first breath. And since my grandfather went to prison, we’ve gotten even closer.

Nate: Makes sense. There’s no one around to control you. You’re free to have a different, freer kind of relationship.

Imani: Mom’s afraid. I know it. I can feel it. And I believe you when you say that her condition might not be dire, but I just can’t stand the thought of losing my mother now. My moderate to severe plaque psoriasis…

Sharon: Oh, this is your idea of livening things up?

Nick: Yeah, I’m gonna make beverages in the festive variety for all of us.

Sharon: Well, this is my place of business. I can do it.

Nick: I used to work here, too. Hey, do you remember when we tended bar together?

Noah: Yeah, I still got the scars, man.

Nick: Here’s what I’m thinking — you and me, milkshake party for new hope. We can, you know, chuck some ice cream pints back and forth. We’ll take the chocolate, move it around, behind the back, doing all this kind of stuff, you know, up in the —

Noah: This guy is out of control, man. You’re just asking me to be in my next piece.

Nick: No, no, no, no, no. I will wow the crowds and give them exactly what they want and impress them with my milkshake moves, milkshake moves. Let’s go, come on. Who’s up?

Nate: Are you feeling better now?

Imani: Thank you so much.

Nate: If you’ll excuse me for a moment.

Imani: Oh, of course.

Nate: Hey.

Elena: Hi. I thought you had a meeting at chancellor tonight. I decided to pick up dinner for us on my way back from the hospital.

Nate: Wow, great minds think alike. I was gonna grab you some dinner, then steal a kiss or two, then head back to my meeting.

Elena: Oh, well, that’s so sweet of you. Thank you. So did imani volunteer to carry your takeout bags or…?

Nate: [ Chuckles ] She is here with amanda. Their mother got some troubling news about her health.

Elena: Oh, I’m sorry to hear that.

Nate: I did my best to try to convince her that everything should be okay. Thank you. Why don’t I drive you home so you can dig into your food?

Elena: No, no, no. You get back to your meeting. I’ll stay and offer my doctorly advice in case they have any questions.

Amanda: Elena, hi.

Imani: What did the doctor say?

Amanda: Well, he said that there is no cause for concern because there is no evidence of any serious underlying condition.

Nate: Does he want you to schedule additional check-ups?

Amanda: Yeah, just to monitor the situation. And mom has to call if she has any other episodes.

Imani: So she’ll be alright?

Amanda: If she follows her doctor’s orders, she will be fine.

Imani: [ Sighs ] Thank god.

Elena: That’s great news.

Nate: Did you want me to give devon an update?

Amanda: No. I just — I didn’t get a chance to tell him about this, and i wanted to wait until I had more information. And he has so much on his mind right now. I just —

Nate: Okay, I’ll leave that up to you, then.

Amanda: Thank you.

Nate: I’ll see you later tonight.

Elena: Yeah.

Amanda: Night, nate.

Nate: Night.

Elena: You ladies mind if i join you for a drink?

Amanda: No, no, absolutely not. Please.

Adam: Victoria and nikki are going out of town so victoria can “clear her head.”

Sally: She’s going on vacation?

Adam: It must have been terribly stressful for her to realize that she almost handed over the company to her con artist husband, and then was saved by yours truly. I mean, the poor woman, she deserves a little downtime at a european spa.

Sally: The self-care rituals of the rich and powerful.

Adam: Why can’t dad see that she’s unfit to run newman?

Sally: It’s up to us to open his eyes.

Adam: Well, victoria and ashland are never gonna find their way back to each other if she’s on a different continent.

Sally: Yeah, but how long does a spa trip take, a week, two?

Adam: She can’t come back soon enough.

Sally: You really want this to happen fast.

Adam: Victoria and ashland are clearly interested in reuniting, so I just would appreciate if they would stop avoiding the inevitable and move it along.

Sally: Okay, let’s just take a minute and consider another option. Perhaps this trip isn’t actually an obstacle in our path. What if it’s a blessing in disguise?

Sally: From the looks of things, ashland isn’t going anywhere. We’ve only started laying the groundwork to convince him not to give up on victoria and victoria to forgive him.

Adam: So how does my sister’s stay at a european spa help us achieve our goal?

Sally: Distance makes the heart grow fonder, and all of that. The more distance victoria puts between them, the more she misses him.

Adam: Do you really believe that? Or are you just trying to talk me down?

Sally: [ Sighs ] We have to be patient. We knew from the beginning this was going to be a slow and challenging scheme.

Adam: Well, the more time that passes, the less predictable things are gonna become. We cannot fail.

Sally: Because if we do, you will not become the ceo of newman enterprises.

Adam: And you will lose you shot at becoming ceo of newman media. I know how much you’ve enjoyed your brief tenure in that chair.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Adam: Can you really live being stuck in second place when you know how good it feels to be number one?

Nick: [ Sighs ]

Noah: That mocha was —

Sharon: Surprisingly delicious.

Nick: Why are you shocked? I was an owner of this place, too, at one point.

Sharon: No, I’m just saying.

Nick: You think it was a fluke? Fine, I’ll make you another.

Sharon: No, no more caffeine. I will not be able to sleep tonight.

Nick: Okay, I’ll skip the caffeine and go right to just a tower of whipped cream. Chocolate shavings, little cherry on top?

Noah: Oh, it is your favorite part of any drink.

Sharon: It is not.

Nick: It most certainly is. We have many photos proving that you love whipped cream. Lots of memories. You love all things frothy, sharon.

Sharon: Okay, fine, guilty as charged. But no more drinks.

Nick: Alright. But you could do some chocolate.

Sharon: Now you’re talking.

Both: Double fudge brownie.

Noah: Coming right up. And by that, I mean dad will go get one for you and for me, ’cause we both know how much you hate eating brownies alone.

Nick: I live to serve.

Noah: And make sure that’s floating on top of a giant cloud of whipped cream, okay?

Sharon: With a cherry on top.

Noah: And there’s an extra little tip in it for you if you dance it out to the table.

Nick: Oh.

Imani: I hate this feeling of helplessness, like there’s nothing we can do for mom.

Elena: That’s not true at all. There’s plenty you can do. You can go with her to all of her appointments.

Amanda: And I will check in on her more often, I promise.

Imani: At least we have friends like nate and you, of course, elena, to hold our hands through all of this.

Elena: It’s difficult being called on to care for our elders when we’re used to being the ones who are cared for. I moved in with my uncle jett when he got sick, until he was back on his feet, and I remember feeling really scared, not knowing what was gonna happen next. But in the end, he recovered. And luckily, I ended up starting a whole new life here in genoa city.

Imani: Are you saying you originally came to town for your uncle?

Elena: Yeah, yeah, a few years ago now. That’s actually how I met devon. His sister ana is my uncle jett’s daughter.

Imani: And you and devon were together for quite some time.

Elena: I don’t know if I’d say all that.

Imani: Ah, and then you started dating nate. But, you know, I never heard the juicy part in the middle of the story. Like, why did you and devon call it quits? I mean, if you don’t mind sharing.

Elena: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: I was about to send out a search-and-rescue team for you.

Nate: I’m sorry that took longer than expected.

Billy: No harm, no foul as long as it’s as good as it smells.

Nate: I hope you managed to nail down some details while i was gone.

Devon: Yeah, we were actually able to accomplish a lot.

Billy: Yeah, I’ll e-mail you a bunch of notes that I took.

Nate: Thanks. You know, I’ve been thinking a lot about this, not just the launch, but some of the ideas we discussed about the company moving forward.

Lily: Yeah, let’s hear it.

Nate: Well, this merger’s gonna generate a lot of attention, and I think you need to promote the company not just as a family business whose combined entities will continue to make an impact on a regional and national level, but one that’s going to —

Lily: Prepare for global domination?

Nate: Yes, absolutely. Go big.

Devon: Big? You sound like a real risk-taker, man.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] Why not?

Devon: Well, I mean, we’ve always known you as a guy to be really more like a “follow the rules” type of dude, you know?

Lily: I know. Who knew that nate was this business phenom just waiting to be unleashed?

Devon: Been suppressing all this pent-up frustration or something?

Nate: No, no, I wouldn’t say I was frustrated before. It’s more like I’m filled with an aspiration I never knew existed until now, you know?

Lily: Wow.

Nate: So please raise your expectation.

Lily: Wow, okay, you hired him.

Devon: I — no, that was you, actually.

Nate: It was a group decision. You brought me into the fold, and I intend to make the two of you and neil very proud.

Lily: Aww. [ Chuckles ] For people who are a little intense about hydration.

Amanda: Elena’s past is her business.

Imani: I didn’t realize it was top secret.

Amanda: Maybe you didn’t realize, but my sister has a really hard time knowing when to stop.

Imani: Okay, yes, I can be a little too curious. Good thing I’m not a cat.

Amanda: You don’t need to answer that.

Imani: No, we’re all friends. What you say will not be used against you.

Amanda: Why don’t we just change the subject?

Elena: Okay, hey, hey, hey. It’s fine. I don’t mind talking about it.

Imani: Oh, okay, good. Tell me all the details and don’t leave anything out. What? She said she doesn’t mind.

Elena: Okay. Unfortunately, as much as devon and I loved each other, I think we were growing apart.

Amanda: That is elena’s polite way of saying that it is all my fault.

Elena: That is not true.

Amanda: Okay, 65%. My job brought me to town, and little did I know, I looked exactly like devon’s deceased wife.

Imani: Mm, hilary.

Amanda: Yes.

Elena: Her twin. But none of us knew that at the time.

Amanda: If it wasn’t for nate pushing me to get that dna test…

Imani: So you were dating nate and you were dating devon. How did everything end?

Elena: Nate and I worked together. We spent a lot of hours in the clinic together. And he was just really kind and supportive when it felt like devon was pulling away from me. And one night, we gave in to our attraction.

Imani: No. No, you didn’T.

Amanda: Imani, just —

Imani: No, I’m just saying neither you nor nate seem like —

Elena: The type of people who would do something like that. Yeah, we didn’t think so either. But I guess there’s just something undeniable between us.

Imani: That must have been a very painful time for everyone involved.

Elena: It was. For amanda, as well, since she was seeing nate at the time.

Amanda: Yeah, but we weren’t serious.

Elena: Still, it was a betrayal.

Imani: So how did devon find out?

Elena: I told him everything.

Imani: He must have been furious.

Elena: Yeah, and rightfully so. He ended things with me and he got in a huge fight with nate. Permanently injuring his hand. That’s actually the reason why nate can’t perform surgery anymore. And it’s one of the reasons why he’s chosen to change his career path.

Imani: Which brings us to now. Amanda and devon, you and nate. That’s incredible. After all the people who got hurt and the lives that were forever changed, you guys are all so close again. That says a lot.

Amanda: So do you, imani. Too much.

Imani: [ Chuckles ] Well, it’s good to know that time really can heal some wounds.

Elena: Yeah, time and a lot of hard work to earn forgiveness. But I think everything worked out how it was meant to.

Imani: Hmm.

Elena: And not only are we neighbors, but we are also friends.

Amanda: To good friends who have already been through the worst.

Elena: Yes, so the best is yet to come.

[ Laughter ]

Nate: We burned through more than half the items on our list.

Devon: We sure did, and i suggest that we leave the rest of the decisions for tomorrow. Tackle them in the morning.

Lily: Oh, come on, really? We just got our second wind. You’re gonna leave?

Nate: You and billy work together and live together. You’re not constantly trying to carve out some time for your partner the way I am.

Lily: Okay, fine, whatever. Get out. Go home.

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: Alright, thanks, guys. We’ll see you tomorrow.

Devon: Night.

Lily: Bye. Good night. Well, that was a productive meeting.

Billy: Yeah, it was good.

Lily: Anything else you want to say about it?

Billy: No, I think everybody’s on the same page.

Lily: Are we, though?

Billy: What exactly do you mean by that?

Lily: Well, it just seemed like after nate got here, you were kind of in a mood.

Billy: I was in a mood? Why would I be in a mood? No.

Lily: Well, I mean, the other day, devon mentioned that you might be uncomfortable because you’re the only person in the c-suite who’s not family and was wondering if you feel awkward about it.

Billy: And now you’re wondering the same thing.

Lily: Well, I mean, it was in the back of my mind, and now it is in the front of my mind when I saw how quiet you got when we were all chatting. So are you really okay with this merger?

Billy: I am so excited to be a part of this team. I really am. Just as much today as I was when we first started, okay? But the truth?

Lily: Always.

Billy: It’s a little bit difficult sometimes. You know, when you and your family, you and your brother, batting it around a little and you’re baiting each other, it’s great, I love it, you know? I think it’s wonderful, but it’s just a reminder every time, when you start talking about neil, that I’m not part of the family. And maybe that means my position here at the company is not quite as important, you know? The passion that you have, it comes from a different place.

Lily: Yeah, but your contributions are just as important to me as nate’s and devon’S.

Billy: Well, thank you. I appreciate you saying that. Look, this is just something i need to figure out on my own. You know, I need to find my place in this new structure, that’s all.

Lily: Anything I can do to help?

Billy: No, you’re good. I’m gonna do it on my own, but thank you.

Lily: Okay. Well, take all the time that you need.

Sally: Let me give it to you straight.

Adam: I expect no less.

Sally: I didn’t just enjoy my all-too-temporary reign as ceo of newman media. I loved it, every minute of it.

Adam: I am aware.

Sally: Because I love working and creating and seeing a vision through, and, yes, I won’t deny, I enjoy the power. So if having that again is off the table, then I will have to tell you that I’m out. I’m gone, and I will strike out on my own. But I can’t say that, because I’m not going anywhere.

Adam: Well, then I guess i better make sure that I show you how much I appreciate you sticking around.

Sally: You took a leap of faith on me, hiring me as your coo. And it is my absolute pleasure to be your right-hand woman. Staying here at newman media with you is my top priority.

Adam: It’s good to know that I have you in my corner.

Sally: You’ve got me wherever you want me. So no more talk of possible failure. Only positive thoughts and plans.

Adam: Well, you are the expert at seeing five moves ahead. What do we now?

Sally: This. Of course you’ve seen underwear that fits like this…

Billy: What is the nature of insecurity? You know, that feeling that you’re not enough — where does that come from? Maybe it’s a — a rational awareness about your own inabilities. Maybe it’s a little self-pity. Could probably be a little bit of ego in there. You know, not enough people telling you just how great you are. And, look, maybe that is too harsh and maybe that is too cynical. This could simply be a byproduct of the human experience. Whatever it is, I imagine most people want to feel the ground underneath their feet. They want to know that they’re in the right place at the right time, doing the right thing. And that’s the challenging part because there is no one that is going to be able to tell you if you are. That truth…

[ Sighs ] That truth lies with you. Which brings you right back around to insecurity and the wonder — where is your place in this world?

Sharon: That was so fun.

Nick: Well, I know it’s not paris, but…

Sharon: But you got me laughing and I got to see you dance again.

Nick: Well, consider yourself lucky. Not many people get to see that twice in one week.

Sharon: Thank you. It was nice spending time with family. I wish faith could’ve been here, but she’s off with moses.

Nick: You mentioned an empty nest earlier. It’s gonna be hard on you when she leaves, right?

Sharon: Well, I know that faith was off at boarding school at one point, but this is different. When she goes off to college, it’ll be the end of — no, you know what? It’ll be the beginning of her real adult life. A true goodbye on a different level, actually. You know, when she walks out that door for the last time, she steps into the new phase of her life…

Nick: It’s not gonna be easy.

Sharon: I’m gonna miss her like crazy. But don’t you dare tell her i said that because I don’t want her putting her life on hold for any reason whatsoever. I want her to get out there, do things, learn things, meet people, and just become the person she was meant to be.

Nick: Yeah, I want that, too. Don’t worry, your secret’s safe with me.

Devon: Hey. Oh. This is more than just a welcome-home hug.

Amanda: Been a long day.

Devon: Yeah?

Amanda: Yeah.

Devon: What’s wrong?

Amanda: [ Sighs ] Nothing, just — nothing, it’s just my mom is having more frequent a-fib symptoms, and I know that it’s to be expected. I just — I’m sitting here and it’s just — it’s hitting me harder than I thought.

Devon: I’m sorry.

Amanda: But nate and naya’s doctor, they both say there’s nothing to worry about, at least not yet.

Devon: Well, that’s good news, right?

Amanda: Yeah, yeah, no, it is.

Devon: So tell me, why did nate hear about this before i did?

Elena: Mm. Mm! Tell me I’m not still dreaming.

Nate: [ Chuckles ]

[ Clears throat ] Why don’t I take you upstairs and tuck you into bed?

Elena: Mm, mnh-mnh. I’m up. How was your meeting?

Nate: It was good. Great, even.

Elena: You know, every time you talk about your job, your face lights up. I’m so happy for you.

Nate: I’m happy for me, too.

[ Both laugh ] So how was hanging out with amanda and imani?

Elena: It was fine on the surface.

Nate: Mnh-mnh. Should I be worried?

Elena: I wouldn’t say all that, but…keep your eyes open. Imani is definitely after you. Go with simparica trio it’s triple protection made simple!

Nate: Imani’s a flirt. She is harmless.

Elena: She certainly loved having you to comfort her today.

Nate: She was upset about her mother. She wanted some reassurance.

Elena: That may be true, but she wants more than that from you.

Elena: No, she didn’t have to. I could tell.

Nate: You could tell? Okay. Whatever imani may or may not be thinking, there’s only one woman in my heart and on my mind. So please don’t feel threatened by her.

Elena: I don’t, because nothing is gonna come between us.

Amanda: It’s not like I went looking for nate. Imani and I, we were at society and he came in to grab some dinner, and that’s it.

Devon: Yeah, but I must’ve seen him probably like 15 minutes after that, and he never mentioned any of this to me.

Amanda: Well, that’s — that’s actually because I asked him not to. I wanted to be the one to tell you. I wanted to wait till you were done with all of your business for the day. I didn’t want to distract you.

Devon: You’re never a distraction to me. Don’t ever think that, please. When something happens to you, it happens to me, too.

Amanda: Well, I don’t want you to drop everything for every minor emergency.

Devon: It’s not about me dropping everything. It’s about you not holding back if you have something to share. People can cover for me if things get rough. Lily’s there. She can cover. It’s fine. If you have something to talk about, talk to me.

Amanda: I know, but —

Devon: Do you? I’m serious. I want to be there for you, alright? Never doubt that for a second.

Billy: When is insecurity just a passing phase and when does it become a chronic flaw? What’s it take to get yourself out of that place you find yourself in? You feel alone, I get it. Most importantly, I feel that way, too.

Sharon: I know I won’t really be alone when faith goes off to college. I’ll have mariah.

Nick: And what about noah? You just have to think about dinner and he shows up.

Sharon: [ Chuckles ] That’s true.

Noah: You guys say something?

Sharon: No.

Nick: No. See? Baby bird’s never leaving the nest, no matter how badly we want to kick him out. Plus, you’re forgetting about someone.

Sharon: Who?

Nick: Me. I’m not going anywhere. And if you get lonely and you want to hear the pitter-patter of little feet, you can always come over and hang out with christian.

Sharon: Does he still like to have his bedtime stories read to him?

Nick: He can be convinced. Especially if it’s you.

Sharon: Well, then I might have to take you up on that.

Adam: Well, that was quite the diversion.

Sally: [ Chuckles ] Now we can talk about what our next move is to get ashland and victoria back together.

Adam: While making sure dad doesn’t know what we’re up to.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Adam: He’s having ashland watched, so we could get caught up in that surveillance.

Sally: Well, then we will just have to be very, very careful. Stay off of victor’s radar.

Adam: His goal is to get ashland as far away from genoa city as possible.

Sally: Can’t any of your dad’s hobbies keep him busy, like a golf tournament or a boxing camp?

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Hold up.

Sally: Was it something i said?

Adam: A crisis — a crisis that would take his focus off of ashland and force it elsewhere.

Sally: What kind of crisis do you have in mind?
