Interview with JJ Bailey

TV Interview!

JJ Bailey, co-creator/showrunner of "The Hunting Party" on NBC

Interview with JJ Bailey, co-creator/showrunner of “The Hunting Party” on NBC by Suzanne 2/20/25

This was a nice interview. I always enjoy talking to writers and producers because they know more about the background and creation of a show than the actors do. I was supposed to speak with his co-creator/showrunner, Jake Coburn, but I was told at the last minute that he wasn’t feeling well.  It was a short interview, but I asked most of my questions, so I was happy with it. It’s an interesting show, so I hope it gets a second season.

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Javi told Jada that Rafe cheated on her before the wedding. Jada didn’t believe Rafe would cheat on her. Javi said he was telling her the truth. When Jada wanted more information, Javi told her it was the stripper from the bachelor party. Jada was shocked when Javi said he caught Rafe with the stripper. While Javi was telling her about the stripper, he said Rafe admitted to cheating. Jada was curious as to why Javi was telling her about it. Javi said Rafe made him promise not to say anything and used the family card to guilt him into keeping quiet. Jada understood since she did the same for Talia. Javi said he told Leo and assured her that Leo wouldn’t say anything. She said that would explain why they spoke out at the wedding. Jada told him about the dream she had of them getting back together. After what she told her, she knew things were over between her and Rafe. Steve and Brady showed up at the Blake house. Brady told Ava how they ended up at the house. Ava said she was there because Rachel lured her there. She said Rachel sent the text saying she went to China. While she was telling them what happened, Ava told them Kristen’s mother helped Rachel. Brady was surprised because Kristen’s mother was dead. Ava said she was alive and walking around wearing white. Brady said someone was tricking her because Rachel has been dead for years. When Ava said she was telling the truth, Steve wanted to know where she was. Ava said she was just there but didn’t know where she was. Steve left to check the house. Brady couldn’t believe what Rachel did. Ava said Kristen and her mother were in on it together. Brady wanted to know what happened. Ava said Kristen figured out what happened. It occurred to Brady that Kristen knew where Ava was. Ava let him know that Kristen wanted to help, but her mother talked her out of doing it. She thought Kristen did it to protect Rachel. Ava said EJ knew she was there and didn’t help her.

Rafe asked Rachel who was in the house. He said she would be going to prison. Rachel said she made a deal with EJ. Rafe said he would let her go if she helped him with EJ. When Rafe said EJ was like Stefano, Rachel was interested. Rachel thought about what Rafe said and decided not to help him because she had to think about Kristen and her granddaughter. She put the gag back on his mouth. When she left the room, she ran into Steve. She wanted to know who he was and why he was in her house. Steve said the woman downstairs was the mother of one of his children and told her to come with him. Kristen pulled out a vial from an envelope and told EJ it was the answer to their prayers. When EJ wanted to know what it was, Kristen said it was from Dr. Rolf. She said it was a miracle drug. EJ realized it was the drug Megan used to make them forget being held in the tunnels. Kristen said they would be in the clear if they use it on Ava and Rafe. EJ reminded her that the memory loss was short term and that they remembered what happened. Kristen said the dose was stronger and would work. She said the only other alternative was to kill them. EJ didn’t want to kill them. At the police station, Shawn told Belle that he was busy trying to prove that EJ framed Jada. Belle wanted to know what evidence he had. Shawn said he would get the evidence soon. They got into an argument over it. He said he couldn’t be impartial towards the man she’s having sex with. Belle accused him of being jealous. Shawn said she was blinded by what’s in front of her. Belle let her know that her life was none of his business. She asked him how he knew she was seeing EJ. He said Jada told him. Ava said EJ was surprised to see him tied up. She said she thought he would help her, but he didn’t. Ava said she knew EJ hated her, but thought Rachel was the one behind it. While they were talking, Steve showed up with Rachel. Shawn told Belle that Jada knew she was lying about being at the DiMera mansion to see Johnny, so she figured she was there to see EJ. He said he couldn’t believe Belle would sleep with the man who framed the woman who got her the DA job. Belle yelled at him for judging her. When Kristen and EJ went to the Blake house, they didn’t see anyone. EJ went to check on Rafe. While Shawn and Belle were arguing, Steve showed up with Rachel. He said she needed to be arrested for kidnapping. EJ saw Rafe tied up. When EJ was about to stick him with the syringe, Rafe grabbed his arm. Kristen showed up while EJ and Rafe were fighting over the syringe.

Transcript provided by Suzanne and Thane

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

I hope that you do not waste any more tears on my cousin… [dramatic music] Especially because–

Because what?

There’s something that you should know about Rafe.

He cheated on you.

What?

I am so sorry.

No. Uh-uh. No. Rafe has done some seriously messed-up things lately. But he would never be unfaithful to me.

I know it’s hard to believe. I didn’t want to believe it either. But I am telling you the truth. Rafe, he… had sex with someone else.

So let’s go over the ground rules before you eat your breakfast. Now, no biting, no spitting, and definitely no yelling. I have very sensitive ears, and we’re in a remote area, so no one would hear you anyway.

But I heard a woman’s voice earlier.

Oh, yeah, her. Well…[chuckles] She definitely won’t be coming to rescue you.

Why not?

Well, let’s just say that you’re not the only prisoner in this house.

You’re holding someone else here?

We’re just full of questions this morning, aren’t we?

Yeah, you’re damn right I am. Who else is here?

Oh, Ava.

Mm. Oh, God.

[groans] Oh.

Got you, got you, got you, got you, all right?

Brady. Oh, God, Steve. Thank God. Thank God.

It’s OK. Hey, hey. It’s over. It’s over. It’s over.

You have no idea how happy I am to see you. Oh. How’d you guys find me?

Steve was able to enhance the audio on the voicemail that you sent me. And up until now, I couldn’t even understand the end of it.

But once my guy cleaned it up, we knew that Rachel had called you and you were on your way to this address.

Yeah, well, your daughter lured me here. It was part of her grand plan to keep us apart. And when she failed, she stepped up her game.

She stepped–what do you– what do you mean? Easy, easy.

[groans] I mean… Rachel knew. She knew that you never heard my message and that it was all garbled so you didn’t hear me say that I was here. She took my phone, she sent you a text message, and she made you think that I dumped you and went to China.

Wait, wait, wait a minute. Are you saying that Rachel has been holding you captive?

No, that’s– that’s ridiculous. She’s just a little girl. She couldn’t have done this alone.

No. No, she could not have done this alone. But she sure as hell did do this with the help of her grandmother.

Her–Marlena? What?

No, Brady. No, her other grandmother. Kristen’s mother.

Who else are you holding here?

Oh, that’s none of your concern.

You’re in way over your damn head, lady. Yeah, when they find you here, which they will, you are gonna be facing some serious prison time.

Mm.

Be smart. Be smart and let me go.

I’m afraid I can’t do that.

Why not?

Because I made a deal with EJ DiMera, and it’s one I intend to keep. – So this plan you’ve been formulating?

Huh, you know, I assumed this was something I was expecting from DiMera, but now I think it might be exactly what we’ve been waiting for. Hmm.

Ooh! [laughs] Indeed, here it is.

And what is that?

Oh, little brother, this is the answer to our prayers.

Mm. [soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

[dramatic music]

Ava, I don’t understand. See, Kristen’s mother is dead.

[scoffs] Oh, no, she’s not. She is here. She’s creeping around this house all dressed in white.

You’ve seen her?

Oh, I see her three times a day when she brings me my gruel.

Steve, I know what you are thinking, but this is not a hallucination.

Then it’s got to be some kind of trick, OK, because whoever you’re seeing is not Rachel Blake, because she passed decades ago.

Ava, listen, whatever is going on–

Look, I am telling you what’s going on, Steve! I told you Kristen’s Mommie Dearest is alive and well, and she has been holding me hostage in this haunted house!

All right, all right. Take it easy. Just tell us, where is this woman now?

EJ DiMera is the scum of the Earth. There’s no way you can trust him.

Well, unfortunately, I have no choice.

Yes, you do. Yes, you can let me go, and I will help you. I will help you get out of whatever mess it is that you are mixed up in. Look, I don’t know what kind of deal you made with EJ, but I guarantee you he is not gonna hold up his end. He’s just like his father.

Stefano? In what sense?

Every sense. He’s like the second coming of that monster. He’s just as heartless, just as ruthless. He–he’s only out for himself. I’m telling you, Stefano not only raised EJ, but he molded him into his own twisted image.

The answer to our prayers.

Mm-hmm. Amen and hallelujah.

Right, well, I’m going to need you to be a bit more specific.

Well, after we talked last night, I got in touch with Rolf.

I already don’t like the sound of this.

I’d be a little bit more grateful if I were you, EJ. We currently have two very large problems taking up space in my mother’s house. And Rolf maybe, once again, has saved the day.

All right, I’ll bite. What has our favorite mad scientist cooked up for you this time?

You see, this lovely concoction has been around for a while now. It is called CRS-17, otherwise known as our miracle drug.

[siren wailing]

Oh! Hey. Sorry, I didn’t know you were in here. [scoffs] OK.

Something that I can help you with, District Attorney Black?

Hmm, I didn’t realize we were using official titles, Detective Brady.

Well, we are at work.

Well, whatever you’re doing must be really important, because you couldn’t even be bothered to look up and say hello.

As a matter of fact, it is important. Trying to prove your new boyfriend framed Jada.

What? You’re telling me that Rafe had sex with someone else the night before we were supposed to get married?

It happened after the bachelor party.

With who?

Don’t clam up now, Javi, not after you just told me that my fiancé slept with someone else. Who was it? Please tell me! Who did Rafe have sex with?

The stripper.

[dramatic music]

Rafe had sex with the stripper?

I found them together, him and Savannah. That was her name.

OK, what do you mean you found them together?

The morning of the wedding, I went over to the inn to help Rafe get ready, and she was there in his room.

OK, so this Savannah person was in his room. That doesn’t mean they slept together. Maybe she was trying to get paid or something.

No. I paid her the night before at the pub.

OK, but that doesn’t prove anything.

Jada, she came out of the bathroom in a towel. And Rafe gave me this whole song and dance, saying that she only stayed over because she was too drunk to drive home. And he claimed that nothing happened between them.

There was a lot of drinking that night. Maybe he was telling the truth.

He wasn’t. I’m sure of it.

How, hmm? How are you so sure?

Because I told Rafe that I didn’t believe a word that he said and he needed to fess up and admit that he had sex with her. And eventually, he did.

And I wish that I could tell you that he broke down bawling the instant that he came clean, but he didn’t think that it was a big deal. I–I don’t even have words to explain it. Look, all I can say again is that I am so, so sorry. Come here.

Hold it. You found out about this the morning of our wedding?

Yeah.

That was weeks ago. Why am I just hearing about this now?

Well, this would normally be the part where I would tell you that EJ is not my boyfriend. But considering the very obvious foul mood you’re in, I think I’ll save us both the aggravation.

That’s fine by me.

[scoffing] OK. Do you have any evidence to back up your allegations?

Why? So you can go and warn EJ?

Oh, my God. Screw you, Shawn! I would never do that. And yeah, I’m gonna call you by your first name, so deal with it.

OK! Jeez. Calm down.

[scoffing] OK.

Look, and to answer your question, no. No, I do not have any proof that EJ set Jada up. But it’s only a matter of time before I do.

Yeah, well, you do know that the whole “innocent until proven guilty” thing applies to everyone, including EJ.

I’m wondering if you realize how biased you are.

What? Excuse me?

Oh, come on, Belle. We both know that you cannot be objective about a man that you are having sex with.

Oh, I’m familiar with CRS-17. Megan shot us up with it a couple of years ago so we wouldn’t remember why she held us captive in the basement for weeks.

Mm-hmm, and ruin her plans for world domination.

But we were able to remember after Marlena hypnotized us.

Yes, that is right. This drug causes memory loss. I mean, CRS stands for Can’t Remember–

I know what it stands for.

Well, then you also know from firsthand experience, as you just said, that if a person or two people were to be injected with it, then they would forget why they were kidnapped.

But if we use it on Ava and Rafe…

You and I would be in the clear.

EJ’s only loyalty is to himself. And as soon as he gets what he wants, he’s gonna turn on you like the rat that he is. His word means nothing. He will destroy you and your loved ones without a second thought. There’s still a chance. There is. If you let me go, I will make sure that EJ goes down for this. And I will swear that you were forced to do this against your will. All right? What do you say?

No, don’t–don’t look at me like that, Steve. I am not crazy. Rachel Blake was just here.

All I’m asking is, where is she now?

I don’t know. OK, maybe–maybe the old bat saw you two coming and she flew off to her old belfry.

Steve… I swear to you on the life of our son that Kristen’s mother has been holding me captive.

All right. I’ll go search the house.

Be careful.

You don’t believe me either, do you?

You just swore on your son’s life. I believe you.

Good.

Are you–are you hurt? Are you hurt?

I’ll be OK. I’ll be OK.

Kris–Kristen’s mother did this? That is just–it’s–it’s–

Insane. It’s insane.

Yeah.

Yeah. I know this. And it’s taken me learning the hard way that the Blake women– you know, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

[chuckles] I’m– I’m mortified at my daughter’s role in all this. Obviously, her grandmother has been a very bad influence on her.

Yeah. Her grandmother and her mother.

[sighs]

What do you– what do you mean?

Oh, Kristen was in on this.

Are you telling me that Kristen knew that her mother was keeping you hostage here?

Look, not initially, no. But look, when the Woman in White walked in, I thought that Kristen was gonna pass out from shock.

Yeah, I’m sure about that. But how did Kristen know that you were here?

Look, she found my phone and some scrapbook about this place in Rachel’s backpack. She put two and two together.

Oh, my God. Oh, my God.

Brady, what? What is it?

[sighs] The other day, Kristen and I were supposed to take Rachel to therapy together. Kristen went into the other room to get Rachel’s backpack, and then all of a sudden, she got a real bad headache and wanted me to take Rachel alone. She said she was gonna go upstairs and lie down. I bet she came here.

Yeah. Obviously, she didn’t tell you that she found me.

No, she–damn it! I just–I just talked to her about this a couple hours ago. Kristen looked at me dead in the eye, and she pretended to know nothing, even though I told her I was worried about you. I didn’t know where you were. I couldn’t reach you. I can’t believe Kristen actually saw you and didn’t help you get the hell out of here.

OK, well, she wanted to initially, but her mother talked her out of it.

She talked her– how’d she do that?

Because she told her that if she set me free that I was gonna go straight to the cops and then Rachel was gonna get all messed up in this. Look, she did this to protect her kid, but she walked right out that damn door. [dramatic music]

You’re telling me that three generations of Blake women were responsible for you being kidnapped?

Yeah. And one DiMera man.

No, no, no. You mean–

Oh, yeah. EJ. He knew I was here, and he didn’t lift a finger to help me.

Doesn’t this only erase short-term memory?

Yeah, but that’s all we need. It doesn’t matter if Rafe and Ava remember their tumultuous teenage years. We just want to erase anything about them being held captive by you and my mother.

But as I just said, you and I couldn’t remember why we were kidnapped, but we did remember who did it.

Yeah, but this– this is a stronger dose. Rolf assured me he perfected it.

Oh, well, then we have nothing to worry about now.

OK, you know what? You want to be a naysayer? You–you don’t like my idea? Then you propose a better one, EJ.

How dare you accuse me of not being objective about EJ?

I’m just calling it like I see it.

Oh, well, your vision is clouded by your jealousy. And what happened to my personal life being none of your business?

OK, you are making it my business. My boss was fired because she was falsely accused of being corrupt.

And?

And now the DA is turning a blind eye to what couldn’t be a more obvious frame job because she’s literally still in bed with the guy behind it.

So any better ideas?

[sighs]

[chuckles] Yeah, I didn’t think so. Look, EJ, honestly, I don’t love the idea of relying on Rolf either, but this– this is our best shot at coming out unscathed, hmm? I mean, the only other alternative is to get rid of the captives permanently.

No. No. I don’t want to go down that route.

OK, well, then let’s hustle over to Aremid. We jab the PI and the Mob princess before Steve and Brady track them down, hmm?

So will you help me or not?

I’m sorry. The answer is no. I have to think about my daughter and granddaughter.

You keep bringing them up, saying that you’re doing this for your family. How are they involved in this?

No more questions.

So, what, is EJ doing something to them? Is he threatening them? Is that why you’re helping him? Please! Please, just tell me what the hell is going on so I can get out of here and back to the people I love.

Why didn’t you tell me that Rafe slept with that skank as soon as you found out?

I wanted to, but he begged me not to.

Seriously?

I hated it. I hated every minute keeping this from you.

But yet you did it anyway.

But Rafe was, like, bullying me into these arguments, saying that it wasn’t my secret to tell and that what you didn’t know wouldn’t hurt you.

[sighs]

I–I know. I know. But then he pulled the family card and said that family is supposed to look out for one another. And next thing I know, I’m promising him that I’m gonna keep my mouth shut.

God knows that I’ve covered for my sister more than once, so I understand why you didn’t tell anyone.

I did tell Leo.

What? Wait, Leo Stark knows about this?

I ran into him when I was leaving the inn, and I was just so angry and so upset that it just sort of came out.

Great. So now Leo has a nice juicy column for his gossip piece.

No, no, no, no, no. Leo would never do that. In the moment, he was just being a good friend. Jada… I was so torn that when the ceremony started, I still didn’t know what to do.

Wait, is this why Leo stood up when Paulina asked if anyone had any objections?

He knew that the secret was eating away at me, and so he was gonna say something.

That’s kind of considerate of him. But then you stood up and you said that you had something to say.

Because I realized that I had to tell you. But then Rafe stopped the wedding before I could.

Yeah, then he ruined my life with all those trumped-up allegations. God. You know, every time I feel like your cousin can’t do anything more to hurt me or humiliate me any more, he finds a way to prove me wrong.

I know how EJ operates. Oh, he has you thinking that you have to go along with him. But it’s not true, OK? I can get you out of this.

You know something? You talk too much.

What? No, no, no, no, no. No, please, don’t. Don’t–please, don’t do it. Don’t, please! Please. [groans]

Well, I’ll be damned. Ava wasn’t seeing things. You must be the infamous Rachel Blake.

What do you mean still in bed with him?

Come on, Belle, you can drop the act, all right? I know.

You know what?

I know that you lied to me when you said that your hookup with EJ was just a one-time thing.

Well, actually, I didn’t lie, because when I told you EJ and I were together once, it was the truth. And you know what? Why does who I sleep with have anything to do with you? We’re divorced, remember? And please, please, please, please save me all of this BS about being biased. You know me. You know I would never compromise an investigation because of my personal life.

I thought that I knew you. Apparently not.

So how did you know that EJ and I are still seeing each other?

Jada told me. [dramatic music]

I hope that you know that I didn’t tell you this to add to your pain. When you asked me what it would take to get over Rafe, I thought knowing this might help.

Knowing that he’s a bigger pig than I thought.

The way Rafael treated you was shameful.

You know, I had a dream this morning. I had a dream that Rafe, he was asking for me back. He wanted me back. He said that he loved me and he wanted to marry me. He even got down on one knee with your mother’s ring. But… even after all of the outrageous behavior that Rafe did, I was still holding out hope that we would get through this.

I don’t know, but after speaking to you, it’s clear that we’re not gonna get through it. It’s not gonna happen. Rafe and I, we’re over.

We’re done. [phone beeps]

The woman you had hogtied downstairs is the mother of one of my sons.

I see.

What a bastard. I wonder if this was his idea of revenge for what happened to Susan.

Look, EJ hates my guts. There’s no question about this. But I don’t think this has to do with his mother. I think it has to do with Kristen’s.

Why would you say that?

Because Rachel Blake asked to speak to him outside in private. And so whatever she said must have turned him onto her side, because he never came back.

Well, what could she possibly have said to him?

I don’t know. You know what? You’re gonna have to ask the kidnapping granny, if Steve ever finds her. [footsteps tapping] Oh.

How you doing? Are you cold? Do you want–I can get you a blanket. Want my jacket?

OK, Brady, I keep telling you I am fine. Look, we don’t even need to be here. I told you, Kristen’s mother didn’t hurt me.

I would just feel better if the doctor checked you out, OK? And hey, until then, call your son, ’cause I’m sure he’d love to hear from you personally that you’re OK, thanks to his dad.

And you.

So not only am I biased and incompetent, but I’m also a bad friend?

Hmm, I would throw crappy sister in there too.

Oh, well, since we’re on the subject of sisters, shall we discuss Talia Hunter?

Yeah, bring it. Fine.

Excuse me. Excuse me. You think you two can stop arguing long enough to book this woman for kidnapping?

Apparently she is.

Huh. So for all these years, she’s been alive, and now she’s been holding Ava in Aremid?

Pretty wild, huh? I’m just glad Brady and I got there before it was too late.

I am sorry that you were so worried. But I promise you, Tripp, I am totally fine. Yes, I will still ask the doctor those questions. Yes–yes, yes, and I will– I will–I will call you again later today. Yeah. Yeah. OK, all right, honey. Just please give Wendy a hug from me, and– OK. I know. I love you too. All right. Ciao. [sighs] Thank you, Brady. For everything.

What do you mean you had a baby? Are you talking about Bailey Lou, when you pretended to be pregnant? This wasn’t pretend. I got pregnant in high school, I had the baby, and I gave it up for adoption. You never told me. I never told anyone except Ma. I never even told the father. What about your own father? Did you tell Ned? No. Wow. I know this is a lot to take in. So hold on. You got — You got pregnant when you were a teenager, and you’ve been carrying this secret ever since. Sasha, I would like to go over the menu for the hospital board dinner, and I’d like a cup of tea. Your special blend? Yes, please. Sure. You got it. But, um, first, I thought you should know that a P.I. is snooping around, and I’m pretty sure she’s trying to dig up dirt on Michael. What makes you say that? I had an encounter with a woman, Elaine, and her dog outside of Bobbie’s, and then again at the park. And eventually she told me herself who she was and that someone was looking into me. And what did you tell her before you knew who she was? You, of all people, walking into my house demanding peace. I want to respect Sam’s wishes for Danny and Scout to grow up together. And that’s never going to happen, because we’re constantly at each other’s throats. So I’m calling for a truce for the kids. So now you want to honor Sam’s wishes? That’s right. [mellow music plays] I’m so happy you’re home. [Finn exhales] Yeah, I know, it’s just been, uh, too many double shifts lately. [forced laugh]

Steffy:  Well, I really missed you. I missed you too. Well, I just– I just realized I finally get to hear. Hear? Whatever it is you wanted to tell me the other day but you didn’t want it to get in the way of our celebration. Some big news? Yeah. Um… there’s some-some news, and it’s, um… life-changing. Oh, please tell me there’s an update. On the AC? Unfortunately, no. And this kind of thing doesn’t usually happen, but with my house manager gone– That’s fine. I’ll take no AC in a mansion any day over where I was before. This is so much more comfortable than being in a prison. It’s where my mom and everyone else still thinks I am.

Finn: We can “what if” this to death trying to guess what Steffy’s gonna do, but the only way that I’ll know for sure is if I go home and tell her what’s going on. That Luna’s my daughter. Oh. I was told a patient was waiting for me. Didn’t expect my sister. Something wrong? What is it, Penelope? What’s going on? Oh, well, well, well. What are you doing here? Hopefully getting my old job back? [inhales] We know what you did. It was a momentary lapse in judgement. And, thankfully, I’ve been released after time served. Uh, a deepfake, Remy? AI-generated nudes? That’s…that’s some pretty sick stuff. I thought that Electra Forrester was supposed to be your friend. You really gonna let me have it too? No. Because I’m really in no place to judge. What are you saying? You’re no saint either? Let’s just say I’ve had my moments. But look, see? I am reformed. Does that mean you’ll give me another chance? I would. But Deacon… I don’t think so. You don’t think Deacon would give me another chance? [small laugh] Remy… you know who Electra’s boyfriend is, right? Will Spencer. Hope’s cousin. Hope, as in Deacon’s daughter. No, sweetheart, you’re outta luck. Sheila, I really don’t wanna go back to Texas. I-I need to find something to keep me in LA.

Oh, great.

What? Well, happy hour is over.

Huh?

That’s Will’s dad. He kills the moment. He always kills the moment. Are you sick, Penelope? Is that why you’re here? No. Not physically. What does that mean? You know what? It’s-it’s nothing. Just-just ignore–ignore me. Um, I’m just not, um, I’m just not in a good place. I think I know why. Because of Luna.

Steffy:  Life-changing? Whatever it is, it’s obviously weighing on you. Something to do with a patient? Uh, no. It’s-it’s personal. About my past. About a-a woman from my past. [edgy music plays] I have a takeout order. Today would be great. Wow. More angry than usual. Well, if you must know, the AC is out and… in this heat wave, that really irritates me. You’ve got money, so why don’t you get it fixed? As a matter of fact, I have made a ton of calls. Everyone is booked for weeks. Have you replaced the filters?

Bill: I don’t replace filters, all right? I have somebody who does that. I’m a busy man. But my house manager… isn’t available at the moment. Well, I-I’d be happy to help. What, you’re an AC guy? Well, I’m from Texas. It’s hot there. We’re all AC guys. I got you. You should hire him, Bill. I mean, he did great work here. Very handy. I’m sure you’d be in great hands with…Dario. Well, uh, normally, Shiela vouching for you would automatically get you crossed off the list. But I am desperate. Uh, I assure you I can do the job. I have to handle something. I’ll think about it. Why did you do that?

And who’s Dario?

You are. “Remy”? I’m sure that that’s on Bill’s radar as some sort of a-a freak. I’m sure Will’s told him everything. [whispering] That is Bill Spencer over there. He’s one of the wealthiest men in Los Angeles. That could be the opportunity that you’re looking for. Dario. [heavy music plays] Hope you know I’m glad you’re here. Makes me feel hopeful thinking you’d come to me when you aren’t in a good place. I want to be the one you confide in, Penelope, that you can trust me again. I know I don’t deserve it, not after being so hateful, but… feels like we’re on the right path again. Yeah. Yeah, it does. I can see how worked up you are. Struggling with everything that’s happening with Luna. It’s…it’s a lot to handle. If I had been a better sister to you, more supportive, and to Luna… your daughter might not be in prison right now. Lives wouldn’t have been lost. And Finn wouldn’t despise his cousin.

Steffy:  A woman from your past. I never brought this up before because it… it wasn’t an issue. But it is now? Yeah, look, I– I put this out of my mind long before I met you. Just pretended that, you know, it didn’t happen and i-it didn’t matter. It was just-it was just easier not to acknowledge it, and that…that worked for me. For many years. But not anymore, um, because, yeah, it’s, uh… It’s an issue that I have to deal with, um, now. We both do. Many years. So… Whatever it is, it-it was a while ago. So whoever you’re talking about, it’s not someone I know, right? No, yeah, y-you actually do. She’s, um… even been to our house. She has? Wait, this woman is still in your life? Yeah. I mean, no, obviously like not-not in that way. Okay, just to be clear, since you haven’t really mentioned it, we’re talking about someone that you obviously slept with, right? When I was young.

How old?

18. So someone from college? She wasn’t in school. She was, uh, older. And I know her? Yeah. Okay. Well, who is it? Um, it’s… Poppy. Your aunt? Yeah. [intense music plays] All right, well, get to the point. You’re trying to set me up with Bill Spencer? Bill Spencer the billionaire. Why are you helping me? I like you. I don’t know, maybe I see a little bit of myself in those eyes– the mischievous side.

I’m flattered.

Don’t be. At least, that’s what people would say, people that think that they know me. What, are you a mass murderer or something? Right. You really think it’s the filters, Darren?

Uh–

Uh, sorry. Dario. Uh, possibly? It might be the coils or–

Whatever it is, can you fix it?

Uh, definitely.

Won’t let you down.

Can you come out today? Uh, lemme see. As in right now. Uh, sure, yeah.

I–

Great. Let’s go.

Go! Go, go, go.

Okay. It’s hard to know how different things would have been. It’s not worth dwelling on it, Li. I didn’t have any right being suspicious of you having an affair under my roof. You would never do such a thing. You’re a committed, loyal sister, and I’m appalled with myself for thinking you could ever betray me in such an ugly, dirty manner. I wasted so many years holding onto resentment and anger. [exhales] Will you ever be able to forgive me?

Steffy:  Poppy? Your aunt? Oh, Finn.

My God, your aunt?

Look. It wasn’t like I, you know, like felt– She had to have known what she was doing. Well, I was 18, so I mean, I knew– 18, Finn? 18 is still really young. I thought I was a man. I mean, I acted like one, so… I’m so sorry you had to go through something like that. I really am. And you hid it for so many years. You kept it bottled up inside. I-I get she wasn’t your biological aunt, but my God… you were still adopted into their family. What she did to you is so unforgiveable. I am so sorry. I’m so sorry you ever had to go through something like that. Oh, my God. [dramatic music plays] [sighs] I guess I could go lounge by the pool for the tenth time today. Hang on a second. I have to check on something.

Make yourself scarce.

Why? Who’s here?

A guy to fix the AC.

Oh! Awesome. Go, go, go, go, go. Come on in. Oh, wow. You weren’t kidding about how warm it is.

Better get to work.

Yeah, hopefully

it’s just the filters.

Yeah, I’ll start there. But your freon might need to be recharged. It could be like a clogged evaporator or a condenser.

I’ll figure it out.

All right. That’s all very exciting. Here you go. Uh… this is like $500. I haven’t even fixed anything yet. I trust you will. And I’m also buying your discretion. Discretion? Look, just, uh, do the job, and beat it, okay? Don’t go ADD on me. Do not get distracted. Do not make yourself at home in any way. Just do the job and leave by the service gate. Okay. But what if I need to talk to you about it

or show you something–

Yeah, don’t do that, ’cause I don’t wanna talk about it and I don’t wanna see anything. I’m gonna be on business calls all afternoon. I don’t wanna get into freon issues. Gotcha. Don’t let me down…Dario. I won’t. Couldn’t help but overhear. Oh. Hi. Are you here to fix the AC? Uh, that is the plan, yeah. Thank God. It’s been unbearable around here.

Pretty warm, yeah.

And boring.

Huh?

Oh, nothing. I’m just, um… in between projects right now. Do I know you? No. I don’t think so. I have a friend, uh, who works at a fashion house in LA– Forrester Creations. I-I spent some time reading up on the place and different news stories and… the biggest one of all recently was a… intern commits double homicide? Is that you? I’m here for you. Whatever you want, okay? Whatever you need. You’re not upset? Upset? No! I feel for you. I-I hurt for you. I’m angry with Poppy for taking advantage of you.

Well, I was 18, so I knew too.

No. You don’t have to make excuses for her. Look, if you don’t wanna explain the situation, you really–you really don’t have to. I kinda have an idea how it went down. You were young. You had an innocent crush. And Poppy, she was… she was doing a lot of drugs back then, and I’m sure she took one look at you and… What she did to you, that’s just sick. It’s awful. What, her sister adopts you, and then she… [whispering] Oh, my God. [sniffling] It’s like no wonder Luna turned out the way she did. I mean…Luna is her daughter. She tried to kill me. She poisoned me. She killed two men. It’s like that sickness is in her veins.

Um…

Oh, hey.

No–

It’s-it’s-it’s okay, okay? As much as it hurts, there’s no lasting repercussions, okay? We’re gonna get through this, Finn. We will. What Poppy did to you in the past doesn’t matter. It’s not gonna change anything about us, okay? Um…

Hey, what is it?

No–

What’s-what’s-what’s going on?

[deep sigh] There’s more to the story.

I’m sure there is.

No. No. Just listen, okay? There’s something that… I have to tell you… and it’s something that you’re not gonna wanna hear. [intense music plays]

WOMAN: Here’s a look ahead.

You’ve built these gates… but I see beyond them. You will never know Finn as intimately as I do. Oh! [doorbell rings] [gasps] Cousin Finn.

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Kate went to see Philip and saw him packing his things. She wondered what he was doing, and he told her that he decided to move back to the Kiriakis mansion. Kate questioned why he would do that, and he let her know it was Xander’s idea to do it. She didn’t think it was a good idea for him to move back there. He questioned why she was reluctant to the idea. Kate told him that things could go wrong if the truth came out. Philip thought the truth was safe because Sarah had too much to lose by telling Xander the truth about the letter. Sarah talked to Xander about the troubles at the hospital. He offered to buy the hospital. They talked about Philip. Xander told her that he was getting along with Philip. He thought they could get more work done if Philip moved into the mansion. Xander thought things were working because of Sarah. Sarah’s face turned white, and she was about to tell him something. She told him that she didn’t want him to get his heart broken. Xander assured him that his eyes are open. Gabi and JJ made love at the Hernandez house. He noticed something wrong and asked her about it. She was thinking about Rafe and how he changed. Gabi couldn’t believe that Rafe humiliated Jada the way he did. JJ didn’t believe the evidence against Jada. Gabi believed Jada when she said EJ set her up. JJ wanted to prove Jada’s innocence.

Belle thought things were good with EJ, but she wasn’t sure if she would get her heart broken. EJ told her that he would continue to be bad, but she knew what she was getting from him. If she wanted him to change, she would be disappointed. Belle wasn’t naive about what he’s done, but she wanted to know if there was a reason to walk away from him. Paulina called Belle. After her phone call, Belle threw her drink in EJ’s face. Belle found out that he tried to get her fired. EJ thought she was a hypocrite since she stole his job from him. He thought she was going to leave, but she surprised him by staying. Shawn found Jada at the Brady pub drinking. He wondered if she wanted to keep drinking. She wanted to forget about the last time she talked to “Rafe.” Shawn couldn’t believe what was going on with Rafe. Jada was about to drink again when Shawn suggested they do something else. They decided to play darts. While they were playing darts, the subject of Belle and EJ came up. Shawn thought she was right about them getting together. Jada told him that Belle said she was at the mansion to see Johnny, but she didn’t think she was telling the truth. JJ told Gabi that he would reach out to Shawn about investigating EJ. Gabi couldn’t wait to expose EJ after what he did to her. JJ wanted to get started, but she thought it could wait. They made love again. Shawn took Jada to Stephanie’s place, but she wasn’t home. They were about to kiss, but she pulled away from him. She hated Rafe, but she still loved him too. Shawn agreed that they shouldn’t do anything stupid when they still have feelings for Rafe and Belle. Belle was glad that everything was in the open with EJ. She felt like she would be prepared for him. They agreed they were ready for what the other would do and kissed. EJ and Belle headed upstairs to his bedroom.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[dramatic music]

Mm. Mm. I must be dreaming.

I’d better not be. [both chuckle] – Feliz Día del amor, mi amor. – Pero eso fue ayer.

Huh?

That was yesterday.

Oh, well, every day feels like Valentine’s Day with you.

Aw.

Although I’m wondering if you should go sit over there because I only have nice things to say about you and last night and today, tomorrow.

[shushing] Deja de hablar.

Huh?

This. [smooching]

[laughs]

[laughs]

[grunts] Oh. Good morning.

Good morning.

Why are you looking at me like that?

I was just watching you sleep– well, listening to you sleep, actually.

Oh. Was I snoring?

Talking.

Really?

Mm-hmm.

About what?

About Jada Hunter and how you set her up for a fall.

[knock at door]

I have nothing to say to you.

Wait, Jada. Jada, listen, OK? I’ve been a total idiot, all right? I don’t know what came over me. I don’t believe any of this manufactured evidence against you. I know that you’re innocent, OK? I am sorry. I am sorry that I ever doubted you and– but EJ obviously set this whole thing up. And I can’t believe that I fell for it.

If you really loved me–

I do love you. I still love you, and I still want to marry you.

Jada, please, take this ring back. Take me back.

I love you so much. Can we just–can we just pretend these last few weeks were all just a bad dream?

[tense music]

I’m sorry I’m late with your breakfast. I was busy upstairs.

[muffled speech] [phone rings]

Hold that thought. Hello.

Mother, I still can’t believe I’m hearing your voice.

[muffled shouting]

Kristen, oh, it’s such a blessing to hear your voice. Don’t mind the annoying background noise. How are you, dear? How’s Rachel?

We’re fine.

I hope you haven’t punished her for all this business with Ava. After all, it was my idea.

She is not being punished, no. But at some point, she does need to learn that hostage-taking is not an acceptable way to solve her problems.

I do admire her ingenuity, though, I must say.

[sighs] As do I, I admit. Well, for now, she has no idea that I know that she lured Ava to Aremid, let alone that EJ dumped Rafe there too. I am so sorry that you have to deal with him as well.

Oh, it’s no trouble, dear.

Well, even so, you won’t have to take care of Rafe or Ava much longer because I have a solution– a permanent one.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

I’m gonna have to let you go. I’ll call you back. [sighs] Hi, Brady.

Hi. I overheard you saying something about a more permanent solution. To what?

DiMera business. Sorry, but I can’t be sharing trade secrets with a competitor, can I?

Work is the last of my concerns, Kristen. Or should I say our concerns?

Why? What’s wrong? [tense music]

I had a little visit from Child Protective Services. We have a big problem.

[sighs]

Well, my daughter sure hung up in a hurry. I hope everything’s all right.

[muffled speech]

I’m sorry. I didn’t get that. Maybe this will help.

[screams]

Oh. Are we still doing this?

[screaming]

I told you– wasting your breath.

[screams] Help!

[muffled] What was that?

[chuckles] So you heard me saying–

That you set up Jada, in those words. God, I should have seen right through all your denials.

[chuckles] I didn’t lie, Belle.

Then how do you explain what you said in your sleep?

I didn’t say it. That’s how I explain it. I’m not the one lying here, Belle. You are.

If you’re saying that I misheard what you said–

I’m not saying you misheard. I’m saying you made it up entirely. You see, the thing is, I never talk in my sleep. Ask any woman I’ve ever slept with. Ask Samantha.

Oh, ha-ha-ha.

And even if I had dreamed about setting up Jada, I’ve also dreamt about traveling to Mars, where everyone there spoke Swahili.

[chuckles] OK, fine!

Mm. So you admit you made it up.

Listen, I’m just trying to figure out what’s going on here. Someone set up Jada, and it does have your fingerprints all over it.

Is it too hard for you to believe she’s guilty?

Yes, it is. And furthermore, if you continue coming after my job…

My job.

I am going to continue coming after you with all of the ammunition I’ve got.

Well, I expect no less from you, Belle. But trying to trick me into confessing to something I didn’t do, that hurt my feelings– below the belt, if you will, especially when we are here in my bed the morning after Valentine’s Day, having spent a wonderful evening… speaking for myself, anyways. [dramatic music]

Well, I didn’t mean to hurt your feeling. [both chuckle]

Well, I’m afraid you’re just going to have to make it up to me.

Hmm. What’d you have in mind?

Oh, I have a couple of ideas.

[chuckles]

I wish that I could stay here all day.

I wish you could stay here every day. So when’s the next Longhorns game?

Tonight.

So is it a date?

As long as Gabi doesn’t keep me overtime until midnight like she did the other night.

Who won last night’s game, anyway? I seem to remember getting distracted by something and missing the end.

Mm-hmm. Well, let me check.

[knock at door]

Steve, good morning.

Hey.

Come on in.

Thank you.

If you’re looking for Stephanie, she had an early meeting over at the mayor’s office.

No, I was looking for you. Stephanie told me that you were staying here with her till you find a place of your own.

Yeah, and I am very grateful to her for that. This may come as a shock to you, but it is nearly impossible to rent a place with no job, no income, and a criminal investigation hanging over your head.

I’m really sorry, Jada.

I’m just glad that my father isn’t around to see this.

Oh, come on. Marcus would know what a raw deal you got, just like everyone who loves you knows that. And listen, I am still determined to prove that EJ DiMera set you up.

Well, I am very grateful for that, especially considering that you’ve had so much going on yourself, you know, with John being gone and Rafe quitting to get back on the force and you worrying about Kayla. How’s she doing, by the way?

Oh, she’s much better. Thanks. But I was just pulled in on a missing persons case that Brady wants me to look into.

Who’s missing?

Ava Vitali.

I don’t want it. I want you to let me go.

I’m sorry. You know I can’t do that.

And now I see where Kristen gets it.

Gets what?

Oh, let’s see. Crazy, felonious.

[laughs] That’s funny. I’ve heard all those things about you. [chuckles] You gonna eat this or not?

Not.

Fine. I’ll just give it to someone who will appreciate it.

Yeah? Who’s that, the Parrot Man?

Or someone else who could use a good meal.

The CPS worker basically grilled me about why Rachel ran away.

Well, what did you tell them?

I told her the truth, obviously, that it was a cry for attention because she wants her parents to be back together.

Yes, exactly. Exactly. This is not a case for CPS. [scoffs] Oh, my God. Every child runs away at least once. I mean, it’s not like we’re abusing her.

Kristen–Kristen, it’s not that simple, or I wouldn’t be here right now.

OK, fine. Go on.

The file that CPS had was an inch thick. They knew all about our custody battles over the years. They knew all about our respective criminal histories. They said that Rachel has been through too much trauma. And I couldn’t disagree. I also didn’t disagree with the fact that a lot of this is on us.

Yes, I mean, we’re parents. We’re not perfect, Brady. But damn it, I mean, nobody– nobody loves that child more fiercely than you and I.

I know that. I know that. You know that. I’m sure our daughter knows that. But I needed to warn you that this woman is gonna want to talk to you and probably to Rachel.

OK, then we need to all be on the same page.

Kristen, what we need to do is make sure that nothing else goes wrong with Rachel. Nothing. No more lying, no more running away, no more–no more kidnapping, no more forging, no more blackmail. And that goes for all of us here.

What? What?

Well, nothing, nothing. You’re right. You are right.

Look, I know this sounds dire. If it sounds that way, it’s because it is. This woman basically put me on notice and said, if we get one more black mark against either of us–

Black mark?

An incident that they deem detrimental to Rachel’s emotional or physical well-being. If it happens, they can take her out of her home and they put her into protective custody. Kristen, we could lose our little girl forever.

I can’t believe this is still in the headlines.

Corruption, scandal, sex– unfortunately, this story’s got it all.

But there is no corruption. Jada is being made out to be the bad guy when everyone that knows her knows that she’s innocent. I mean, I know her. We’re friends. We bonded. We lived under the same roof.

Well, Rafe lived under the same roof with her too.

Look, I know he’s my cousin, but this dirt that he’s dug up on her can’t possibly be legit. I mean, she’s being made out to be this awful, amoral person when Rafe’s the one who cheated on her.

Nothing you can do about it now.

Not about the headlines, but–

But what? [dramatic music]

I don’t know. I’m starting to have second thoughts about telling Jada the truth about Rafe.

Well, look who’s finally awake. Thought I was gonna have to give you a good shake. [chuckles]

Where am I? And who are you?

I’m here to take care of you.

So you’re, like– you’re, like, what, one of EJ’s minions?

Beg your pardon?

Yeah, well, last I remember, EJ had me in his basement, and he was coming at me with a syringe.

Now I’m here. So you, like– you on his payroll like Rita?

I have no idea who Rita is, and I do not take orders from EJ DiMera.

Then why?

I’m doing this for my family, no one else.

[grunts]

That’s insane! Nobody’s going to tell me that we’re bad parents, Brady, or that she’d be better off in someone else’s care.

Of course she wouldn’t be.

They’re not gonna take her away from us. They can’t.

That’s why we can’t give them a reason to.

What? You tell me what you’re thinking right now.

I–I’m just–I’m shaken up because I thought this was a nothing case, that they would just dismiss it out of hand.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

All right, well… it’s OK. I appreciate the heads-up.

[sighs] Hey, listen, I know this sounds a little bit like doomsday. It doesn’t have to be. We just have to take this warning seriously and do what we need to do.

Right.

We can do it.

Yeah.

We can. We just–hey, we have to keep our eye on the prize, focus, pull each other in the right direction, and…[snaps fingers] It’s doable.

You always know the right thing to say, don’t you?

[chuckles] Rachel has a half day of school today. Would you like to stay and hang with her?

I would–I would love to, but I have to meet with Steve Johnson.

Steve Johnson? About what?

Ava’s disappearance. [tense music]

Thanks.

Mm-hmm. So you’re saying Ava didn’t go to China?

Mm-mm. She never contacted Tripp, and there’s no record of her boarding any flight.

Mm. Where could she be?

I have no idea. But she left Brady a voicemail on the day she disappeared. But the reception cut out, and the last part of the message was indecipherable.

How much was missing?

Well, everything potentially useful.

Well, all’s not lost. At the department, we have this new equipment–

Thank you, but I already hired a sound guy to enhance the audio. And we’ll see if there is a clue as to where she might be.

And?

Well, still waiting.

You know, we had evidence like this for a case a couple months back. And we were able to find some ambient noise in the original that helped us pinpoint the location.

Yeah. Yeah, we tried that too.

Mm. Well, if I was still commissioner, I’d make–

You’d do everything you could to help out. I know.

Don’t mind me. Old habits.

I understand. Jada, we’re gonna get you back where you belong real soon. I promise. And in the process, it will give me great pleasure to bring EJ DiMera down.

Well, I don’t know about you, but I am starving.

EJ.

Hmm?

Did you seriously pass out on me?

[mumbling] I did it.

What?

I did it. I set up Jada.

Oh!

[chuckles] I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I couldn’t help myself.

All right. I’m gonna go to work.

No, no, no, no, no. Please don’t. No, no, no, no, no. I was only joking. Don’t be mad.

How can I not be mad when you’re trying to steal my job?

Well, maybe I wouldn’t do that if you’d stop trying to entrap me. This is the part where one of us says, all’s fair in love and war.

Except it’s not love.

Well, I hope it’s not war either.

What?

Belle, I just– I just want to let you know that… I’ve enjoyed the time that we’ve spent together.

OK, we had this conversation last night.

No, no, no, no. Let me–let me finish. [dramatic music] I know that this is complicated for a myriad of reasons– because of Shawn and Samantha and the job and many other things. And maybe this will blow up in spectacular fashion one day. We know the odds. But I just want to let you know that I– I care about you. This isn’t just a casual fling for me.

It’s a genuine affection that I feel for you. And I sincerely mean that.

I don’t know what to say.

You don’t have to say anything. [dramatic music] I know that you’re coming off of a divorce. I just wanted to be up-front about my feeling…

[chuckles]

Which isn’t always easy for me to do.

I know. I really can’t believe you just–

Laid my soul bare? [both chuckle] Although some people don’t believe I have a soul.

I know better.

Mm.

[chuckles]

Family? So are you related to EJ or Feniger?

Feni-who? No. I’m doing this for my daughter and granddaughter. They mean the world to me, and all I want is to ensure their happiness.

OK, I don’t get it. What does this have to do with me?

So you want to tell Jada about Rafe and the stripper?

You know that I was ready to tell her at the wedding. But when Rafe stopped everything and left her at the altar, it seemed kind of beside the point.

Yeah, well, isn’t it beside the point now too? It’d be like kicking her when she’s down. And they’re not getting married anytime soon.

But I’m tired of everybody making Jada out to be the villain. I feel like she should know that Rafe has no right to be acting high and mighty with her.

OK, I–I see your point. But wouldn’t it hurt her more to know that Rafe cheated on her the night before their wedding, no less?

Or maybe it would help her get over him.

You know, I love how loyal you are to Jada when Rafe is the one you’re related to.

Yeah, well, I haven’t spent time with him in years. He’s just not the guy that I remember. Jada deserves so much better.

It will give us all great pleasure to see EJ go down. And, Steve, I appreciate everything you’re doing, but Shawn texted me earlier, and he told me that he and JJ are already looking into the case against me.

But still–

But nothing. Look, they have access to police files, so it’s much easier for them than it would be for you or me. Priorities, OK? Ava is the mother of your son, and she needs to be found. It would make me feel a lot better if you just focused all of your energy on finding her.

Are you sure?

100%. I am so lucky to have somebody like you in my corner– you and Stephanie and Kayla.

Well, we love you, Jada.

Yeah.

You’re family, and we believe in you. And we won’t rest until your name is cleared. OK? Come here. Oh, there’s my other baby girl.

What does Steve know about Ava’s disappearance?

Well, he’s helping me track her down now that I know that she’s not in Hong Kong with Tripp. That’s why I have to meet with him now, to see if he has any new leads.

OK, well, keep me posted.

I will. And let me know if you hear from CPS, OK?

I will.

And please give Rachel my love and tell her that I’ll call her and wish her good night, OK?

Yeah. If anyone finds out that Rachel helped kidnap Ava Vitali, oh, God help us.

Longhorns won, by the way.

Yay!

I wish I didn’t have to go to work. We could celebrate.

Well, at least you have a job to go to. Remind me. Money is that green papery stuff, right?

Mm-hmm, but you are going to get a job soon. I am sure of it.

Hmm. I wish I were sure. I have sent out reams of résumés and not a nibble, not that I’m surprised. I wrote soaps; before that, a gossip column. What kind of job am I expecting to get with a résumé like that?

Well, who knows what kind of talent you may have waiting to burst out? [laughter]

All right, let’s see. I can do a really incredible impression of a baby crying.

Ooh.

I can find a song to fit any situation. And if it doesn’t fit, I can change the lyrics so that it does. And since I seem to be genetically incapable of getting a brain freeze, I can chug a slushy without consequence.

Hey, I’m OK. How are you doing? Stupid question. Jada, I’ve been thinking about nonstop, and I just hate what’s happened.

Thanks. Me too. Listen, I already told Gabi yesterday, I returned your mother’s ring to Rafe. So be sure he gives it back to you.

I haven’t been home yet, but when I see him, I’ll definitely do that.

For the record, I don’t think Rafe’s been home either.

Did you run into him?

No, I mean– never mind.

No, no, no. Come on, tell me.

No, I don’t want to pull you into this. You two are cousins.

Girl, I’m already pulled into it. I want to know.

Last night, he had the gall to invite me up to his room at the Salem Inn.

What?

Yeah. Can you believe that… or the fact that I proceeded to cry myself to sleep over that jerk?

Damn, Javi. What’s it gonna take for me to get over him?

Mm. There you are.

Here I am. This came for you.

Thank you.

Kristen, as I told you last night on the phone… [clears throat] We need to figure out what we’re going to do with Ava and Rafe. Your mother can’t babysit them for…forever.

Yes, yes, that is an issue that urgently needs to be addressed, one of several. See, I got Child Protective Services breathing down my neck. And Brady has got Steve Johnson looking into Ava’s disappearance. But there’s nothing to worry about, because I am formulating a plan.

Oh.

Mm. [dramatic music]

Look, I’m here to feed you breakfast, not to answer your intrusive questions.

Maybe I can help your family.

And maybe you could shut your mouth. Your life is literally in my hands. Now, I may look meek and mild, and you may even think I’m a little dotty. But I will stop at nothing to protect the people I love.

Look, Steve, I know that you said you’d call me if you found any more info on Ava. But I’m going crazy here, OK?

Perfect timing. I was just on the phone harassing the audio lab. They’re gonna send me everything they’ve been able to enhance so far.

OK. [phone beeps]

Well, here it is now.

– Brady, it’s Ava. You need to call me back as soon as you get this. I just got a call from Rachel. I know where she is. I’m heading there right now. The address is 2311 Riverbend Way.

Oh, my God, I know where that is.

You do?

We–we have to get to Aremid now.

Aremid?

Hello, Chadwick. It’s Leo. And you will be thrilled to hear that I– who have an amazing work ethic, a wonderful way with words, and, although sometimes I push a little too hard for a joke, am really fun to have around– would be interested in coming back to “The Spectator.” [jazzy music] OK, well, maybe you won’t be thrilled to hear that, but I’m hoping you’ll at least consider it.

The first thing I saw this morning was a hit piece about me in “The Spectator.”

I saw it too. [light music]

At first, I was mad at the whole situation but especially at Rafe for messing with my mind last night. Then I was sad. Because even though I know that I just need to move on and put him behind me, there’s a part of me that still loves him very much and misses him.

Jada…I hope that you do not waste any more of your tears on my cousin, especially because–

Because what?

There’s something that you need to know about Rafe.

He cheated on you. [dramatic music]

Now, let’s go over the ground rules before you eat your breakfast. No biting, no spitting, and definitely no yelling. I have very sensitive ears. And we live in a remote area, so no one will come, anyway. OK?

Yeah. But I heard a woman’s voice earlier.

Oh, her. Yeah, well, she definitely won’t be coming to rescue you. [laughs]

Huh. Why is that?

Well, let’s just say that you’re not the only prisoner in this house.

Huh.

Ava. Oh, God.

[groans]

Come here, it’s OK.

Oh, Brady, Steve.

All right?

Thank God. Thank God.

It’s OK. Hey, hey, it’s over. It’s over.

Yes. You see, I assumed this was something from DiMera that I was expecting. But now I think it might be exactly what I’m waiting for.

[chuckles] Indeed, here it is.

And Drew is certainly encouraging of that. He basically said so to my face. Oh. The fact that Drew was bold enough to do that really worries me. And not because I have any interest in protecting Sonny, obviously, but because Drew was so easily wanting to align himself with Jenz Sidwell. And that concerns me deeply. Well, me, too. Finn: Back-to-back shifts, yeah. But we should have some relief soon, so… [small laugh] You bet I’m anxious to get outta here, get home to my wife. [sighs] Send me what you got, and I’ll do the consult. Okay. Hi. Look, I know why you’re here. I haven’t changed my mind, okay? And I’m not going to. I’m telling Steffy Luna’s my daughter. Today.

[inhales]

Liam: Hey. So I’m taking Kelly to the dance recital next Thursday, right? Uh, yeah, and I’ll pick her up since you have that meeting in the evening, right? Uh, yes. Perfect. Oh, also, I, uh, I brought her sandals back to you ’cause, oh my God, who knew it’d get so hot so quickly? Which is a good thing we have this whole coparenting thing down. We are a great team.

Liam: Great team. You’re a great mom. Can’t imagine having to do this without you. Well, I’m not going anywhere. No, I know. I just–I was more… I was talking to my dad a bit ago just about how close we came to losing you because of…Luna. [moody music plays] This heat wave is ridiculous. Everything I’ve accomplished in this life, and I can’t get an AC guy out to come fix the problem. The AC isn’t working. That’s the problem. Oh, well, you’re quite the mechanical wizard, aren’t you? You bored? Want me to teach you a new game? Sure. Okay. [chuckling] Or not, if there’s something else you’d rather be doing. I mean, I’d rather be at the beach surfing or something, but I don’t think I’d get too far with this thing on.

Bill: No. No, you wouldn’t. Cops would have you under arrest like that. Then you’d have your house arrest revoked and be back behind bars. And unlike last time, there’d be nothing I could do to help you. [edgy music plays] I know the rules by heart, what I can and can’t do.

It’s just…

You’re restless. Anyone in your position would be. I’m not gonna do anything stupid–I promise. I know how good I have it here, and I’m beyond grateful. It’s just… [sighs] Sometimes I can’t help but wonder. Maybe I really do deserve to be behind bars, given what I did to Tom and Hollis and to Steffy, my cousin’s wife. I try not to think about Luna, everything she put me through… especially now that she’s behind bars, hopefully never to see the light of day again. So do you feel safe? Luna committed not one, but two murders. I was close to being the third, Liam. Yeah, if Finn hadn’t rushed in and saved the day. Again. He already saved me from his crazy birth mother Sheila. [small laugh] Geez. And when Luna tried to kill me, both times, my very brave husband kept it from happening. I know I can always count on Finn.

Poppy: Well, I was hoping you’d changed your mind. No. There’s no way I’m keeping something this huge from my wife. And yet you still haven’t told her. Okay, the reason I haven’t told her is because of the insane hours I’ve been working at the hospital. I’ve barely been able to get home. Okay, well, then, have you considered that maybe you’re keeping such a hectic schedule

for a different reason?

What are you talking about? Finn, maybe subconsciously you’re trying to convince yourself that life can go on without revealing the truth to Steffy and risking your marriage and that, deep down, not saying anything about Luna is the only way that you can safeguard what you and Steffy have together. [chuckling] He’s on the warpath, huh? No, no, no, don’t, don’t. Don’t do anything. Just-just wait for me to come into the office. Yeah. It’ll give him a chance to cool down. Okay. Uh, sorry for that brief… interruption. Problems? No, it’s just–[huffs] There’s a client that’s been working, you know, one on one with my dad for years and years now and now he’s working with me, and, uh, to say he’s not enthused about it would be the understatement of the decade. But, uh, that’s just, you know, that’s how it is now with my dad stepping away from the day-to-day. It’s like… Well, for now. For now he is. Wait, you really don’t know why Bill’s spending more time at home than at Spencer? Not really. No, I mean, it– Listen, I’m happy to step up. What else have I got going on besides work? Well, no, that’s– I mean-I mean… Kelly. I have Kelly. The kids are-are… my number one priority, but still… Hey, Liam, you’re an incredible father and I know Kelly loves you to pieces, but… you’re finding time for yourself, right?

Yeah.

All right. Yeah, no, I am. I’m like, uh, like, um… I’m, like, reading, uh… I-I work out sometimes. Uh, thinking about getting a parrot, actually. You know, someone to keep me company.

A parrot.

Yeah. Yeah, like they can– you know, I can talk to the parrot and the parrot like literally talks back.

Be like that mutually…

What? …beneficial–do you know the African grey parrot can memorize up to 1,000 words? It’s incredible. It doesn’t even look grey. Liam, you’re really starting to worry me now. I’m joking. I’m jok–it’s me. I’m joking, I’m joking. I saw it on a nature doc. If I’m gonna get an animal, it’s gonna be a dog. I am fine. Steffy, I’m fine. I’m, um… I think I’m fine. I’m…[sighs] Maybe not. I don’t know. Life just doesn’t… look the way that I, um, pictured it would at this point, you know, spending half the time with my kids, and you’re with Finn and Hope’s with Carter, and… It’s, uh, it’s my own damn fault, a-and I know that. It’s just, um, yeah, my life kinda… stinks. [somber music plays]

Bill: Well, thanks for nothing. No luck? No. AC guy can’t come out till next week. Okay. Maybe we can, I don’t know, jump in the pool or something, cool off? No. Can’t do it. That device is water-resistant, not waterproof. If you damage it, it triggers an alert. Okay. Well, I guess I’ll just keep this fan parked in front of me, think cool thoughts. Look, Luna, I know that, uh, house arrest is no picnic. It’s not supposed to be a picnic. Not even in a home like this. There are a lot of restrictions, a lot of time that you’re alone, and I’m sure you get in your own head. You think about everything that happened, the person you were back then, the person you are striving to be now. I hope that some of our conversations have provided some bit of clarity for you. They have. I mean, you’ve been such a big help to me, Bill. You’ve made me realize that I don’t have to be defined by my past, that I can be the best version of myself moving forward. I’m gonna make you and myself proud. I am proud. Thank you, Bill. Thank you for-for believing in me. Thank you for everything. Sometimes when I, um, lie awake at night, I fantasize about the life I could have, a life where I’m back out in the real world and… my mom and my Aunt Li and my Cousin Finn don’t hate me anymore.

Finn: Being honest with my wife

is how I safeguard my marriage.

[sighs] Finn. You don’t know how much I hope that is true, but– No, no, listen, there’s no buts. No buts. Dishonesty is how you and I got here now. If you had just told me all those years ago that Luna was my daughter, I wouldn’t have to– And then everything would have been okay? That you would be exactly where you are today, just with a grown-up daughter that you are responsible for. We would have shared responsibility for Luna, been the parents that she needed us to be. I didn’t want to upend your entire life! Especially since I wasn’t a hundred percent sure she was yours. Finn, you were just starting out– Look, I could have pursued medicine and been a father. A damn good one, too. But you…you robbed me of that. But more importantly, you robbed Luna. I could have been the stability that she needed, desperately. Her life could have been so different, and that-that is what I keep going back to. That’s all I can think about. That and…what happens next. Well, if you mean telling Steffy– I have no idea how she will react when she hears that the woman who abducted her and tried to take her life… is her husband’s daughter. [dramatic musical sting] Yeah, I get a little stir-crazy sometimes. The walls start to close in and I wish I could break free. But then I realize that that would ruin any chance I have of making a normal life for myself again. Of ever being accepted back into my family. I know. I know it’s a long shot, considering what I did to Tom and Hollis and… I hurt a member of my own family, the mother of my cousin’s child. I almost took her life too. Wow. Did I really just say my life stinks? Am I Mel Brooks? Is that what’s happening? Ugh.

Yeah, you-you kinda did.

Sorry. Yeah, let’s just erase, erase, erase. I didn’t–you didn’t hear those– those words didn’t come out of my mouth. I’m just– I-I’m not–I’m just… I don’t know, existentially frustrated. Frustrated you’re not in a relationship? I mean, I know there’s-there’s woman out there somewhere

Oh!

Um… That’s not true, actually. Wyatt. Wyatt, uh, Wyatt gave me a call, and it was nice. He wished me well. Hey. This is not a pity party. It’s gonna be fine. I’m just, uh… you know what it does for me? It reinforces how happy I am for you and Finn. Just so you know, I called the prison again, and I’m still getting the runaround. Nobody can say exactly where Luna is or when we’re gonna be able to speak to her.

So no details at all.

No. Not that I’m gonna give up. This is my daughter I’m talking about,

and I’m worried.

So am I! But I’m also worried about you, Finn, and what you’re about to do. Finn. You are a good man who’s determined to do the right thing. But what if doing the right thing isn’t what you think it is? What if telling Steffy about Luna causes your marriage to fracture–or worse! Can you just stop trying to change my mind? I’m not going to, okay? This isn’t gonna be easy for Steffy but it’s unavoidable, because of you. Because of a choice that you made decades ago not telling me that I’m Luna’s father. Now I have to bring pain into my wife’s life when all I wanna do is bring her joy. First it’s Sheila, and now it’s Luna. I keep bringing Steffy pain. When Steffy hears that I’m Luna’s father, she might bolt for the door, and I wouldn’t blame her. So then why take the risk? Finn, you could lose your wife, and I know that is the last thing that you want. Of course it is, but I have to have faith in Steffy. I have to have faith in my marriage, in my family. I have to believe that we’ll survive this. But what if you don’t? What if it’s not possible? Okay, look, we can “what if” this to death, trying to guess what Steffy’s gonna do, but the only way that I’ll know for sure is if I go home and tell her what’s going on. That Luna’s my daughter. She deserves that much from me. She deserves the truth. Okay, wait, wait, Finn, I can’t let you do this.

Poppy, get out of my way.

Wait, no, no–Please, Finn. Can we just please give it more time? Can we just…[murmurs] time? I’m not in this for the sympathy, you know. You… you made the right decision. You found a good partner who’s worthy of you. Am I jealous? Yes, of course I’m jealous. I should be jealous, because I had my chance. I had several of them, and I blew all of them. Yeah, there’s the Sheila thing, but… You’ll keep an eye out, right? Yeah. Fingers crossed.

Yeah.

But honestly, I don’t think we’re gonna have any surprises or shocks like that ever again. Well, I certainly hope so, for… both your sakes. You’ve– you’ve weathered the worst of it. Right now, you just deserve to relax and enjoy each other and your family. I totally agree. [phone chimes] Uh, it’s-it’s Finn. He’s actually on his way home right now. Okay. Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

Leo and Javi wake up in bed together. They talk about spending Valentine’s Day together and kiss.

EJ and Belle wake up in bed together. Belle claims that EJ was talking in his sleep about how he set Jada up for a fall.

Jada has a dream about Rafe coming to apologize and get back together, then wakes up on the couch.

Rafe remains tied up in the Blake House.

Kristen’s mother, Rachel Blake prepares to bring Ava breakfast as Ava remains tied up. She gets a call from Kristen, who says she still can’t believe she is hearing her mother’s voice. Kristen assures that her daughter Rachel is not being punished but she will have to learn that taking a hostage is not a way to solve problems. Kristen says for now, Rachel has no idea that she lured Ava or that EJ dumped Rafe there. Kristen says she’s sorry her mother has to deal with that as well. Kristen declares that she won’t have to deal with Ava or Rafe much longer, because she has a permanent solution as Brady appears. Kristen hangs up as Brady questions what she has a permanent solution to. Kristen claims it’s DiMera business and she can’t share trade secrets with a competitor. Brady argues that work is the last of their concerns. Kristen asks what’s wrong. Brady informs her that he had a visit from child protective services and they have a big problem.

Rachel Blake comments on Kristen hanging up in a hurry, so she hopes everything is alright. When she removes the gag from Ava’s mouth, Ava screams which Rafe hears.

Belle claims to EJ that she heard him say that he set up Jada and says she should’ve seen right through his denials. EJ says he didn’t lie so Belle asks how he explains what he said in his sleep. EJ responds that he didn’t say it as he’s not the one lying here, Belle is. EJ accuses Belle of making it up entirely, insisting that he never talks in his sleep. Belle admits that she’s just trying to figure out what’s going on since someone set Jada up and it has EJ’s fingerprints all over it. EJ questions it being so hard for to believe that Jada is guilty. Belle says it is and warns that if EJ keeps coming after her job, she’s going to keep coming after him with all the ammunition she has. EJ says he’d expect no less from her but trying to trick him in to confess to something he didn’t do hurt his feelings. EJ calls it below the belt, especially in his bed after they spent a wonderful Valentine’s Day together. Belle says she didn’t mean to hurt his feelings so EJ says she’ll have to make it up to him as they kiss.

Javi wishes he could stay with Leo all day. Leo asks when the next Longhorns game is. Javi says there’s one tonight, so they agree to a date if Gabi doesn’t keep him over time. Leo asks who won last night’s game since they got distracted. Javi opens his laptop to check but comes across the Spectator article on Jada being investigated.

Steve goes to Stephanie’s apartment to see Jada. Jada talks about having no job, no income, and a criminal investigation hanging over her head. Steve says he’s really sorry. Jada is glad her father isn’t around to see this. Steve encourages that everyone who loves her believes in her and he remains determined to prove that EJ is behind setting her up. Jada appreciates that, especially since he’s had so much going on with John gone, “Rafe” quitting to go back to the police force, and worrying about Kayla. Steve mentions that Kayla is doing much better and adds that he was just pulled in to a missing person case that Brady wants him to look in to. Jada asks who is missing. Steve informs her that it’s Ava Vitali.

Ava tells Rachel Blake that she doesn’t want her breakfast, she just wants her to let her go. Rachel Blake responds that she’s sorry but she can’t do that. Ava remarks that this is where Kristen got her crazy. Rachel Blake says she’s heard the same about Ava. She decides since Ava doesn’t want her breakfast, she’ll give it to someone else who could use a good meal.

Brady tells Kristen that the child protective services worker grilled him about why Rachel ran away, so he told her the truth that it was a cry for attention because she wants her parents back together. Kristen argues that this is not a case for CPS and every child runs away. Brady says it’s not that simple or he wouldn’t be here, so she tells him to go on. Brady reveals the file that CPS had was an inch thick as they knew all about their custody battles and criminal histories, so they said Rachel has been through too much trauma and he couldn’t disagree that a lot of it is on them. Kristen complains that they aren’t perfect but nobody loves Rachel more than them. Brady says they know that but he needed to warn Kristen that the worker will want to talk to Kristen and probably Rachel too. Kristen feels they need to be on the same page. Brady says they need to make sure nothing else goes wrong with Rachel. Kristen agrees. Brady warns that the CPS worker said if they get one more incident, they can take Rachel out of her home and put her in protective custody. Brady worries that they could lose their little girl forever.

Javi can’t believe Jada’s investigation is still in the headlines, arguing that Jada is being made out to be the bad guy when everyone knows she’s innocent. Javi argues that the dirt that “Rafe” has dug up on Jada can’t possibly be legit, arguing that Jada is made out to be this awful person when “Rafe” is the one who cheated on her. Leo says there’s nothing he can do about it now. Javi says he can’t do anything about the headlines, but he’s starting to have second thoughts on telling Jada the truth about Rafe.

Rachel Blake brings the breakfast to Rafe and comments on him finally being awake. Rafe questions who she is and where he is. She responds that she’s there to take care of him. Rafe guesses she’s one of EJ’s minions. Rafe remembers EJ coming at him with a syringe in his basement, so he asks if she is on EJ’s payroll like Rita. She responds that she has no idea who Rita is and she does not take orders from EJ DiMera. She declares that she’s doing this for her family and no one else.

Kristen tells Brady that it’s insane as no one is going to tell her that they are bad parents or that Rachel would be better off in someone else’s care. Brady says that’s why they can’t give them a reason to take Rachel away. Kristen says she thought this was a nothing case that would be dismissed but she appreciates the heads up. Brady says they just need to take it seriously and do what they need to do. Brady encourages keeping their eyes on the prize and pulling each other in the right direction. Kristen comments that he always knows the right thing to say. Kristen mentions Rachel having a half day at school today, so she invites Brady to stay to hang out with her but Brady says he’s meeting with Steve about Ava’s disappearance.

Steve tells Jada that Ava never contacted Tripp and there’s no record of her boarding any flight. Jada wonders where she could be. Steve says he has no idea and brings up Ava’s voicemail to Brady cutting out. Jada brings up the new equipment at the police department. Steve says he hired a sound guy to enhance the audio in hopes of finding a clue as to where Ava might be, but he’s still waiting. Jada recalls having evidence like this in a case a few months back. Steve knows Jada would do everything she could to help if she was still police commissioner. Steve promises that they will get Jada back where she belongs soon and it would give him great pleasure to bring EJ down.

Belle tells EJ that she’s starving while EJ pretends to fall asleep and talk in his sleep. Belle says she’s going to go to work. EJ says he was just joking and tells her not to be mad. Belle asks how she could not be mad when he’s trying to steal her job. EJ says maybe he wouldn’t do that if she wasn’t trying to trap him. EJ remarks that all is fair in love and war. Belle calls it not love so EJ hopes it’s not war either. EJ tells Belle that he’s enjoyed the time they’ve spent together. EJ knows it’s complicated because of Shawn, Sami, the job, and many other things and maybe it will blow up in spectacular fashion one day, but he wants to let her know that he cares about her and it isn’t just a casual fling for him but a genuine affection he feels for her. Belle doesn’t know what to say. EJ says she doesn’t have to say anything as he knows she’s coming off a divorce and he just wanted to be upfront about his feelings which is not always easy for him. EJ jokes that some people don’t believe he has a soul. Belle says she knows better as they continue kissing.

Rafe asks if Rachel Blake is related to EJ or Arnold. She responds that she’s doing this for her daughter and granddaughter as they mean the world to her, so she only wants to ensure their happiness. Rafe questions what this has to do with him.

Leo questions Javi wanting to tell Jada about “Rafe” and the stripper. Javi says he wanted to tell her at the wedding but when “Rafe” left Jada at the altar, it seemed beside the point. Leo worries that it would be like kicking her when she’s down. Javi is tired of people making Jada out to be the villain and argues that “Rafe” has no right to be acting high and mighty with her. Leo says he sees his point but feels it would hurt Jada more to know “Rafe” cheated on her the night before their wedding. Javi suggests it could help Jada get over him. Leo comments on Javi being loyal to Jada despite being related to Rafe. Javi says he hadn’t spent time with Rafe in years and he’s not the person he remembers while Jada deserves better.

Jada tells Steve it would give them all great pleasure to see EJ go down and she appreciates everything he’s doing, but notes that Shawn texted her earlier that he and JJ are already looking in to the case against her and they have access to police files so it’s much easier for them than her or Steve. Jada encourages Steve to focus on his priorities and finding the mother of his son. Jada says she’s so lucky to have Steve, Stephanie, and Kayla in her corner. Steve assures that they love her like family and they believe in her, so they won’t rest until her name is cleared.

Kristen asks Brady what Steve knows about Ava’s disappearance. Brady explains that Steve is helping him track her down now that they know she’s not in Hong Kong with Tripp, so he’s meeting with him now about any leads. Kristen tells Brady to keep her posted while Brady says to let him know if she hears from CPS. Brady says to give Rachel his love and that he will call her. Brady then exits. Kristen worries about anyone finding out that Rachel helped kidnap Ava.

Javi informs Leo that the Longhorns won. Javi wishes he didn’t have to go to work so they could celebrate. Leo comments that at least Javi has a job. Javi encourages that Leo will find something soon. Javi tells Leo that he will see him tonight and exits. Leo sits down with his laptop and reads the Spectator as he pulls out his phone.

EJ walks Belle to the door and hopes she has a productive day at the office. As Belle exits, they find an envelope at the door addressed to Kristen. EJ says he’ll make sure she gets it. EJ kisses Belle goodbye as she then walks away.

Javi runs in to Jada in the town square. Javi tells Jada that he’s been thinking about her and he hates what has happened. Jada informs him that she already told Gabi that she returned the ring to “Rafe”, so he can give it back to him. Javi mentions not having been home yet. Jada doesn’t think Rafe has been home yet. Javi wants to hear more but Jada says she doesn’t want to pull Javi in to this since they are cousins. Javi insists so Jada reveals that “Rafe” invited her in to his room at the Salem Inn and that she cried herself to sleep over him. Jada asks what it will take for her to get over Rafe.

EJ enters the living room and delivers the envelope to Kristen. EJ reminds Kristen that they need to figure out what to do with Ava and Rafe because her mother can’t babysit them forever. Kristen agrees that issue needs to be urgently addressed, adding that she has CPS breathing down her neck while Brady has Steve looking in to Ava’s disappearance. Kristen insists that there’s nothing to worry about because she’s formulating a plan.

Rachel Blake tells Rafe that she’s here to feed him breakfast, not answer his intrusive questions. Rafe tries to suggest he could help her family but she doesn’t want to hear it and declares that she will stop at nothing to protect the people she loves.

Ava continues to struggle while tied up.

Brady goes to meet with Steve, who says the audio lab is sending him everything they have been able to enhance so far. Steve then gets the message, so they listen to the enhanced voicemail where Ava said she knew where Rachel was and she was going there, leaving the address. Brady tells Steve that he knows where that is so they have to get to Aremid now.

Leo calls Chad and hopes that he will consider hiring him back at the Spectator.

Jada tells Javi that the first thing she saw this morning was the hit piece about her in the Spectator which Javi notes that he saw too. Jada says she was first mad at the whole situation, but especially at “Rafe” for messing with her mind last night. Jada adds that she knows she needs to move on and put Rafe behind her but part of her still loves him and misses him very much. Javi hopes she doesn’t waste any more tears on Rafe, especially because there’s something she needs to know about him. Javi then reveals that “Rafe” cheated on her.

Rachel Blake sits with Rafe to go over the ground rules to eating his breakfast, saying no biting, spitting, or yelling and points out that no one will come anyway. Rafe mentions hearing a woman’s voice earlier. She laughs off that she definitely won’t be coming to rescue him and remarks that he’s not the only prisoner in this house.

Brady and Steve arrive to the Blake house to find Ava. Brady removes the gag and tells Ava that it’s okay and it’s over.

Kristen assumed her mail was something from DiMera that she was expecting, but now she thinks it might be exactly what she’s waiting for. Kristen opens the envelope, revealing a vial of liquid and declares here it is.

Update written by Joseph

Kate goes to see Philip in his room at the Salem Inn. Philip comments on Kate not having Valentine’s Day plans. Kate points out that Roman is still in Chicago, visiting Rex. Kate notes Philip is packing his bags which she questions. Philip reveals that he is moving in to the Kiriakis Mansion.

Sarah comes home to the Kiriakis Mansion where Xander is waiting with a rose and candles set up for Valentine’s Day.

Gabi and JJ kiss at home. Gabi tells JJ that Javi is out, Jada just moved out, and she doesn’t know about Rafe, so she invites JJ to stay the night and they head to her bedroom.

Belle tells EJ that she doesn’t need him to rush off and fight her battles for her as she handled it. Belle thinks it’s very sweet that EJ wants to stand up for her but he doesn’t have to. EJ points out Belle thinking he’s sweet and says he does want to stand up for her because he cares about her. EJ adds that he also doesn’t like the idea of someone else kissing her on Valentine’s Day as they then kiss. EJ invites Belle to join him for a drink, so they head in to the living room.

Jada sits at the Brady Pub with a drink, complaining about “Rafe” inviting her to his room after he ruined her career and betrayed her. Jada tells the drink that it’s the only Valentine she needs. Shawn then appears and questions if she’s sure she wants to do that.

Belle asks EJ what they are doing in the broader sense. EJ suggests living in the moment and not defining things. Belle points out that EJ kissed her on Valentine’s Day and that feels like the kind of thing that actual couples do. EJ points out that they didn’t make plans for the holiday, she just happened to stop by unless she wanted to stop by to be with him for Valentine’s Day. EJ says he would feel very lucky if that was the case as he kisses Belle.

Kate questions Philip moving in to the Kiriakis Mansion when Xander is head of the household and historically, he can’t stand him. Kate asks how he talked him in to this but Philip reveals it was Xander’s idea. Philip explains that they were getting along so well that Xander suggested he move in. Philip points out that Kate said he did need a more permanent place to stay but Kate argues that she meant anywhere but there.

Sarah tells Xander that she thought they were going to the Bistro but Xander says when she texted that she was going in to her third surgery for the day, he thought a dinner at home might be what she needs. Sarah says she is grateful. Xander tells her that he gave Victoria a bath and got her to sleep after two bedtime stories. Xander tells her that dinner will be ready soon. Sarah says he seems to have thought of everything, so all that’s left is for her to show him her gratitude as they kiss.

Jada tells Shawn that she’s pretty comfortable with her choice as anything to help her forget about her latest run-in with “Rafe”. Shawn asks what happened now. Jada explains that she went to tell him that she was moving out of his house and staying with Stephanie but “Rafe” tried to talk her in to his bed. Shawn doesn’t know what to say about “Rafe” and remarks that he’s making some very strange choices. Jada wonders what is going on with “Rafe” and how he became a whole different person, questioning what change. Shawn says it sounds like he changed. Jada suggests maybe Shawn was right that the coma changed “Rafe” and his personality but she’s tired of trying to figure it out. Shawn understands how Jada feels but assures her that trying to drink away her problems is a bad idea. Jada asks if he has any better ideas to get out her aggression and stop her from smashing “Rafe’s” face in. Shawn suggests they play a game of darts.

Belle asks if EJ is saying he wanted her to come over and spend Valentine’s Day with him. EJ responds that his heart did skip a beat when he saw her at the door. Belle didn’t know he was such a romantic. EJ says he’s not usually but he has been enjoying their time together. Belle admits she has too, but notes that does come with some issues. Belle brings up being the district attorney while EJ is someone fast and easy with the law. EJ reminds her that he was district attorney until very recently. Belle states that everything is good right now, but she can’t help but wonder if she’s setting herself up for a fall.

Shawn helps Jada with her dart throwing and she ends up landing a bullseye.

Xander and Sarah have dinner together. Sarah says she’s so happy to be home with him and away from the hospital where everyone is at low spirits, worrying about losing their jobs. Xander asks if it’s that dire. Sarah says no one knows since the hospital declared bankruptcy, so no one knows what’s next. Xander asks if the hospital could really close. Sarah says the staff seem to think so. Xander wonders what if Titan bought the hospital and offers to have his financial guy to make a call in the morning. Sarah calls it a sweet offer. Xander says whatever happens, she doesn’t have to worry because he will take care of any expenses. Sarah jokes about Philip being his new best friend and their new roommate.

Philip doesn’t get why Kate is opposed to him moving in to the Kiriakis Mansion. Kate argues that Xander lives there too and they hate each other’s guts, so she questions why Xander would be inviting him over for a permanent sleepover. Kate says it’s fine for them to get along, but living together makes her worry that he could slip and it’s too close for comfort. Kate asks what if the truth about Victor’s letter comes out.

JJ and Gabi kiss until Gabi worries about needing to clean up her room. JJ insists that he doesn’t care and removes his shirt, so they continue kissing on to the bed.

Jada and Shawn continue playing darts. Shawn talks about picturing the bullseye as EJ’s face. Shawn brings up yesterday when he said he thought Belle and EJ were still sleeping together and Jada said she didn’t think he was wrong. Shawn asks why she said that. Jada responds that EJ doesn’t seem like someone who gives up easily. Shawn calls her a really bad liar, so Jada admits that when she went to confront EJ at the DiMera Mansion, Belle was there. Shawn asks if she walked in on them. Jada clarifies that Belle was dressed and claimed she was there to see Johnny, but she felt that she wasn’t being truthful. Shawn guesses that Belle is still sleeping with EJ then.

EJ tells Belle that it’s highly unlikely that he will do something that she doesn’t approve of, but assures that she knows exactly what she’s going to get with him. Belle is not sure that’s comforting. EJ tells Belle that if she wants him to change, then she is setting herself up for disappointment because he’s not Shawn. Belle says she’s not comparing them, but since he brought Shawn up, she’s thinking that if Shawn could hurt her, the odds are not in her favor with EJ but here she is. Belle tells EJ that if he has done anything that would make her walk out and never look back, now would be a really good time to tell her.

Philip tells Kate to stop obsessing over the letter, insisting that there’s no way Xander will find out they forged the letter. Kate asks about Sarah. Philip asks why she would tell him now because then Xander would know she lied to him. Philip argues that Sarah has just as much to lose and that the longer she waits, the more upset Xander would be if he found out. Philip adds that he doesn’t think Xander would want to stay with someone who lied to him about his birthright. Philip declares that Sarah’s whole marriage rests on keeping this secret.

Xander asks if Sarah is not pleased that he invited Philip to stay. Sarah admits she was surprised as the whole thing felt impulsive. Xander admits it was but feels it made sense because they’ve been firing on all cylinders. Xander thought it would make her happy which Sarah questions. Xander brings up that she’s the one who told him to make an effort to get along with his brother, so in a way, this is all happening because of her. Xander then questions her look. Sarah responds that she needs to tell him something. Xander asks what it is. Sarah knows she is the one who encouraged him to get along with Philip, but feels maybe she pushed too hard. Xander asks what she means. Sarah says she just doesn’t want him to be disappointed. Sarah talks about how Xander spent most of his life feeling like an outsider to his family so she feels he’s putting a lot of stock in to his relationship with Philip. Sarah hopes everything goes well but doesn’t want him to be hurt if it doesn’t. Xander says he appreciates her looking out for him but assures that she has nothing to be concerned about as he knows Philip and himself, so he’s going in with his eyes wide open.

Philip appreciates Kate worrying about him which Kate calls a full time occupation. Philip promises that everything will be fine. Kate mocks the idea of nothing going wrong after that. Philip tells Kate to trust him that nothing will go wrong. Kate agrees to trust him because she knows she is overprotective, but she just wants him to be safe because she loves him and wants him to get everything he deserves. Philip invites her to get something to eat in the town square before he heads to the Kiriakis Mansion but Kate says she’s fine and that she plans to binge watch The Traitors on Peacock. They wish each other a happy Valentine’s Day and hug as Kate tells him to be careful.

JJ and Gabi lay in bed together after having sex. Gabi continues to worry about her room looking like a disaster. JJ jokes with her as they kiss. JJ asks her what’s wrong. Gabi says she’s just thinking about Rafe and how when she was growing up, he’d always tell her how important it was to make her bed and clean her room but that’s not the guy Rafe has been the last few weeks. Gabi doesn’t understand how Rafe could have done this to Jada, humiliating her in front of half the town. JJ wishes he had an answer and calls it so weird that he would investigate Jada in the first place. Gabi talks about being on Jada’s side and believing she’s innocent. JJ feels the same and argues that it doesn’t make sense that Rafe supposedly found all this evidence against her. Gabi tells JJ that Jada is convinced that EJ set her up since he hired “Rafe” to dig up this dirt. JJ declares maybe it’s time that he help Jada prove her innocence.

Shawn and Jada continue playing darts. Jada lands another bullseye, winning the game. Jada gets excited but then accuses Shawn of letting her win. Shawn tries to deny it but admits he felt that Jada needed a win. Jada responds that what she needed was a friend and thanks him.

Belle asks EJ if there is something because she saw a flash of guilt across his eyes. EJ starts to explain that he did not set out to do any of this but they get interrupted by Belle getting a call from Paulina. Belle thanks her for calling and hangs up. EJ asks if everything is alright. Belle then throws her drink in EJ’s face. Belle questions EJ trying to get her fired and asks what the hell is wrong with him. EJ argues that he just asked Paulina to give him his job back and that Belle took his job first. Belle argues that she was offered the job. Belle asks if EJ has been plotting this behind her back the whole time and if this is what he was about to confess. EJ states that he doesn’t enjoy lying to her but now she knows the whole truth, so he assumes this is goodbye but Belle tells him he’s wrong.

Roman returns to Salem, surprising Kate at the Brady Pub and wishes her a happy Valentine’s Day as they kiss.

Philip goes to the Kiriakis Mansion, interrupting Xander and Sarah. Philip thought they were going to the Bistro but Xander says they changed plans after Sarah had a very long day. Philip says he will get out of their way but Xander tells him to grab a drink and keep Sarah company while he goes to get their desserts. Xander heads to the kitchen and then Philip tells Sarah that he will leave her alone while he unpacks. Philip asks Sarah if she’s okay with him moving in. Sarah guesses she has to be since Xander wants him there. Philip guesses she doesn’t approve then. Sarah admits she has her reservations. Philip thinks it will be better for everyone in the long run. Sarah warns that it damn well better be.

Shawn takes Jada home to Stephanie’s apartment. Jada realizes she doesn’t have her key. Shawn suggests they could just knock but Jada says that Stephanie texted her that she’s still at dinner, so the place is empty…

Kate didn’t think Roman would be back until tomorrow. Roman says he wouldn’t miss being with his beautiful wife on Valentine’s Day. Roman tells Kate that he’s so sorry she had to give up Body and Soul. Kate admits she will miss it but guesses she will have to put her efforts in to a new endeavor. Roman gives Kate a Valentine’s Day gift and they go upstairs together.

Philip assures Sarah that he doesn’t want the truth about the letter to come out any more than she does, so they are on the same page. Xander comes back and asks what they are on the same page about. Philip claims it’s just that he should take a room on the west wing and tells them to have a great night. Xander tells Philip that he’s glad he’s there as he thinks Victor would be very happy to see his sons living under the same roof, believing it will be great for the company and the whole family. Philip agrees and exits the room. Xander presents Sarah with a cake from the Brady Pub, asking her to marry him. Sarah notes that it’s the same cake that she had given him and jokes that they are already married. Xander tells her that saying yes to her was the best decision he ever made in his life. They tell each other how much they love one another as they hug.

JJ tells Gabi that he will reach out to Shawn to look in to all the allegations against Jada to see if any of them link back to EJ. Gabi is surprised he would do that and says it would be amazing if he’s able to prove EJ was behind everything. JJ asks Gabi if she’s sure she’s up for this because going after EJ is never easy. Gabi responds that after EJ had her locked up for something she didn’t even do, she would love to see EJ put away for something he actually did. JJ feels he should get started away but Gabi stops him and says it can wait until after Valentine’s Day as they continue kissing.

Shawn tells Jada that he should go. Jada thanks him for seeing her home. They almost kiss but Jada says she can’t. Jada says as much as she hates Rafe right now, she still loves him. Shawn says he totally understands and that he had a lot of fun tonight, but they have to make sure not to do anything they regret, especially since she’s still thinking about Rafe while he’s still thinking about EJ and Belle.

EJ questions being wrong that this is goodbye even though Belle threw a drink in his face. Belle admits she was upset, but now that everything is out in the open, she can be better prepared for whatever EJ is going to throw at her while he goes after her job. EJ calls it his job. Belle calls it her job and warns that she gives as good as she gets. Belle asks if he’s afraid of a fight. EJ says he looks forward to it. Belle says may the best district attorney win. They then start kissing and rush upstairs together.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[dramatic music]

Mother. Hi.

Hello, sweetheart.

No big Valentine’s Day plans?

Well, not with Roman still in Chicago, visiting with Rex.

So you’ve come to visit one of your other sons.

Oh, well, it looks like the other son is getting ready for a hasty getaway.

Don’t worry. I’m not leaving Salem after everything I’ve done to secure my place at Titan. But I am moving out of the inn.

Oh, well, well you should. I mean, if you’re gonna be staying in Salem, you need a permanent place to live. Did you look at those new lofts down by the harbor?

No, actually, I didn’t, because I’m moving into my father’s house.

My God, I am so happy to be out of scrubs. I had three emergency appendectomies today, which means that I was on my feet for approximately– [tender music]

What’s all this?

Happy Valentine’s Day, darling.

Javi’s spending the night at Leo’s, and Jada just moved out.

And Rafe?

I don’t know if or when he’ll be back.

So does that mean–

We have the place to ourselves. So if you want to spend the night…

Mm, I–I thought you would never ask.

Yeah.

No. No, no, no. I understand just fine. And listen, I think it’s very sweet that you want to stand up for me, but you don’t have to, not in this instance, anyway.

You think I’m sweet, do you?

[laughs] I suppose that’s what I said.

Well, you’re certainly right about one thing.

Hmm?

I do want to stand up for you but not because I don’t think you can handle yourself but because I care about you, Belle.

See? Sweet.

Also, I don’t like the idea of someone else giving you kisses on Valentine’s Day.

Oh, no?

Mm.

Oh, well, who do you think it should be?

Oh, well, let me show you.

Mm.

Mm. So would you care to join me for a drink?

Lead the way.

Oh, no, no, no. After you, please.

[chuckles] [country music]

Who does Rafe think he is, asking me to come up to his room after he ruined my career and he betrayed me in the worst possible way? You are the only Valentine I need tonight, you and a bunch of your little friends.

Jada, sure you want to do that? [dramatic music]

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

[soft music]

There we go.

So…[clears throat] What are we doing?

I believe you call this having a nightcap. [glasses clink]

[chuckles] Yeah, I get that part. I mean what are we doing in the broader sense?

Can we just live in the moment and not overthink It? I mean, that’s been our mantra, right?

Yeah, but, you know, you just kissed me. And as you pointed out earlier, it is Valentine’s Day.

Your point being?

Well, at the risk of overthinking it…

[chuckles]

Feels like the kind of thing that actual couples do.

I suppose that’s true, but it’s not as though we made plans for the holiday. You just happened to stop by here.

Right.

Unless… [gasps] You wanted to stop by here…

[clears throat]

Because you wanted to be with me for Valentine’s Day.

[chuckles] And if that was the reason?

Ooh. A successful, accomplished, fascinating woman wanting to be with me on Valentine’s Day? Well, I would feel… very, very lucky indeed.

Hmm. [sighs] So you’re moving into the Kiriakis estate.

Is that surprising? I’ve lived there before.

Yes, you have, but not when your brother Xander was head of the household, your brother who historically can’t stand you.

And the feeling has been mutual.

[sighs] So my question is, how did you talk him into this?

It was Xander’s idea.

[scoffs] Really? Xander invited you to live there?

Yeah. I was over at the house the other night, talking business. And strangely enough, we were getting along.

Oh. Oh, the wonder of all wonders.

We were getting along so well, in fact, that he suggested I move in. And since I do, as you said, need a more permanent place to stay…

Yes. Yes, I did say that. But come on, Philip. Not there. Anywhere but there. [dramatic music]

This is all for me?

For us.

[laughs]

Valentine’s dinner for two, just like we talked about.

I thought we were going to the Bistro.

I know, but when you texted me that you were heading into your third surgery of the day, I thought maybe a nice relaxing dinner at home would be just what the doctor ordered, so…

And the doctor is so very grateful. And I’m also grateful that you got our little girl down for the night. Yeah, I checked the nursery before I got changed.

Well, Victoria is not only down for the night, but I gave her a bath…

Mm-hmm.

And read her two bedtime stories.

You got her to go to sleep after only two stories?

I made her a deal: four stories tomorrow as long as she let me get ready for my hot date with her mum tonight.

Oh. She may look like a sleeping angel, but that girl drives a hard bargain.

Just like her mum.

[laughs]

Dinner will be ready soon.

[gasps] You cooked?

Well, I did consider making my world-famous haggis, but it’s not the most romantic food. So yeah, I let Henderson and Cook handle the menu.

Mm, that’s a good call. Well, since you seem to have thought of everything, I guess all that’s left is for me to show you my gratitude. [chuckles] [tender music]

I’m pretty comfortable with my choice. Anything to help me forget about my latest run-in with Rafe.

Oh, no. What–what happened now?

I went to tell him that I was moving out of his house and staying with Stephanie.

And what did he say? He try to talk you out of it?

He tried to talk me into his bedroom.

Wait, you mean–

Yes, I mean. [scoffs] Can you believe that?

I mean, a week ago, I– I would have said no way, but now I’ll believe anything you say about the guy.

What an ass, right?

Yeah, I mean, he’s– he’s making some very strange choices. I’ll give you that.

What is going on with him? I mean, how did he become this whole different person? I just–I don’t understand what changed.

Sounds to me like he changed.

[sighs] Maybe you were right. Maybe that coma did somehow screw with his personality.

It’s possible.

Well, whatever the hell it is, I’m tired of trying to figure it out.

Hey, listen. Listen to me. All right, I know–I know that you’re hurt, all right? You’re frustrated. And hey, I would be too. But coming from someone who spent a lot of time trying to drink their problems away, I’m telling you, it’s a very bad idea. [dramatic music]

OK. Any better ideas on how to get out my aggression to stop me from smashing Rafe’s face in? [soft music]

Best two out of three?

[light music]

So are you saying you wanted me to come over and spend Valentine’s Day with you or, rather, Valentine’s evening?

Let’s just say my heart did skip a beat when I saw you at the front door.

I didn’t know you were such a romantic.

Well, I admit I’m not usually the sentimental type…

[scoffs]

Nor do I go all in for holidays created by the greeting card industry. But I have been enjoying our time together.

So have I. But, of course, that does come with some issues.

Issues?

Well, I’m sure it’s occurred to you that I’m the DA and you’re someone who’s, shall we say, a little fast and easy with the law.

You do know I was DA until very recently.

Mm-hmm. How’d that go for you?

Point taken.

[chuckles] All I’m saying is that everything is good right now, but I just can’t help but wonder if…

If you’re setting yourself up for a fall.

Am I?

[country music]

Oh, damn.

You do know that the point is to get the dart on the board, right?

[laughs] OK, you’ve seen me at the firing range. Do I ever miss a target?

[laughs] No, not very often.

98% accuracy, thank you very much.

Well, since my uncle discourages against the use of firearms in the pub, do you want me to give you a few pointers?

Sure, mansplain away.

No, it’s–no, it’s nothing like that, OK? It’s just a few little simple, helpful tips. That’s all.

Fine. Let’s hear it.

OK, so you’re gonna want to hold the barrel of the dart with three fingers, like this, right? You don’t want to curl your fingers too much, and you don’t want to squeeze the dart too hard.

Mm, heaven forbid. [laughs]

All right, so you’re gonna want to take your shoulder, your elbow, and your hand, and you want to go at a 90-degree angle, right?

Uh-huh.

Like–here, may I?

Go for it.

OK. Got to go up a little bit higher, just like that. You’re gonna want to hold the dart eye level, right there, all right?

Mm-hmm.

And then you want to follow through…

OK.

Just like–

[gasp]

Oh! Oh, my God! You got–that’s a bull’s-eye. Whoa.

Is it good?

Mmm.

[chuckles] Yeah, it’s perfect. I’m so happy to be home with my husband, away from the hospital, where everyone is in such low spirits, just worried that they’re gonna all lose their jobs.

Is it really that dire?

Mm. No one knows how bad it is. Since the board declared bankruptcy, we’re all just left scrambling to figure out what’s next.

Could the hospital really close? [dramatic music]

The staff seems to think so. So everyone’s, you know, jockeying for position and trying to find new and interesting cases and procedures to make themselves look good for prospective employers.

So that’s why you had three appendectomies today.

Yes, and I fear there’s only more of that to come if we don’t just start playing the game.

What is that look?

I was just wondering, what if Titan bought the hospital?

Come on.

I’m serious. I’ll have my financial guy make the call in the morning.

That’s a very sweet offer, but… I don’t think that the “for sale” sign is quite up yet.

Well, whatever happens, you don’t have to worry. Even if you don’t get another position immediately, your doting and adoring husband will take care of any and all expenses. [glasses clink]

Oh. Are you saying I’ll be a kept woman?

Kept by the CEO of Titan Industries.

Co-CEO, along with your new best friend, Philip, aka our new roommate.

I–I don’t get it. Why are you opposed to me moving into the Kiriakis mansion? Have you changed your mind about me being entitled to my birthright?

No, of course not. It’s just the fact that Xander lives there too. And unless there’s something that I’m missing, you two hate each other’s guts. So why the hell would he be inviting you for a permanent sleepover?

So you think there’s some ulterior motive here?

I don’t know what his motives are. I really don’t. And it’s fine for you guys to get along, but to live in the same house together? Something could slip at any time, Philip.

You mean I could slip.

Yes, you could slip. It’s too damn close for comfort, OK? [tense music] What if the truth about Victor’s letter comes out?

Mm. [sighs] Sorry, I know it looks like a bomb went off in here.

It’s fine.

Mm. I’ve been so busy at work. I wasn’t expecting company.

Gabi, do I look like I care? [light music]

You know what? Just let me pick it up, OK?

Look, no, don’t– hey, look, if it makes you feel better, I can just– I can add my own mess.

OK. And I’ll add more to mine.

Mm.

All right, you ready for this? I’m feeling it now.

All right, let’s see what you got. [country music]

Oh, look at that.

I mean, it’s not exactly a bull’s-eye, but–

It’s pretty dang close.

Yeah, it is pretty– pretty dang close.

[chuckles] Unlike some people, I did not grow up in the Brady Pub. But you made a mistake, buddy. You taught me all your secrets.

Oh. Oh, no, no, no. I did not teach you all my secrets. I only taught you some of them.

Really?

Mm-hmm.

What didn’t you tell me?

Well, you remember how I told you this was a good way to get your aggression out? You know what really helps me is that when I throw this thing, I picture that bull’s-eye– I picture that bull’s-eye just being EJ’s face.

Really?

Yeah.

What, you just throw it right at him?

Oh, yeah, it is– it’s very satisfying, trust me.

Oh, I bet it would be.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Can I ask you something?

OK.

Look, yesterday when I told you that I thought that Belle and EJ were still sleeping together, you said that you didn’t think I was wrong. [dramatic music]

I did?

Yeah. Can you tell me why you said that?

Because EJ doesn’t seem like someone who gives up easily.

You know, you’re a really bad liar.

OK. Because when I went over to his creepy mansion to confront him, Belle was there.

Wait, you– you walked in on them?

No, no, no, no. It–it was nothing like that. Belle was fully dressed. She claimed that she was there to see Johnny, but I had the feeling that she wasn’t being truthful.

Wow. So she is still sleeping with him.

If you’re asking if I’ll ever again do something that you don’t approve of, highly unlikely.

[scoffs]

However…

However?

What I can offer you is certainty. You know exactly what you’re going to get with me, Belle.

[sighs] I don’t think that’s all that comforting.

Well, I’m afraid it’ll have to suffice. Because if you’re wanting me to change, I’m afraid you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. I’m not Shawn.

I’m not comparing. But since you brought him up, I’m thinking that if even a “good person” like my ex-husband could hurt me so badly, Lord knows the odds are not in my favor with you.

Hmm. And yet here you are.

Here I am. But I’m also not naive, so… if you’ve done anything that would make me walk out of here and never look back, now would be a really good time to tell me.

Would you stop obsessing over that letter? No way Xander is going to find out that we forged it.

Oh, no? What if his wife decides to tell him?

Why would Sarah say anything now? Then he’d know she’s been lying to him or at least lying by omission.

Mm-hmm.

So she has just as much to lose as I do.

Hmm, are you sure of that?

Yes, I am. The longer Sarah keeps the truth from him, the more upset Xander will be if he finds out. Not just upset– I doubt he’d even want to stay with someone who lied to him about his birthright. Her whole marriage rests on keeping this secret.

[sighs]

Are you not pleased that I invited Philip to stay here?

Well, I mean, I was surprised. The whole thing felt– I don’t know–impulsive.

Well, it was. But you have to admit it makes sense. I mean, we were firing on all cylinders, talking strategy. I just–I just realized how much more we’d get done if he just lived here.

So you’re just gonna be working all the time?

No, but you know how these things go– conversations over the breakfast table, late-night strategizing.

That sounds like fun.

I thought this would make you happy.

Why would Philip moving in here make me happy?

Because you were the one who told me I should make an effort to get along with my brother. I mean, in a way, this is all happening because of you. [tense music] What’s that look? What is it?

Xander, I need to tell you something.

[dramatic music]

What is it, darling?

Xander, I know that I’m the one who encouraged you to get along with Philip, but… maybe I pushed too hard.

What do you mean?

Well, what I mean is, I– I don’t want you to be disappointed.

Disappointed how?

Well, I mean, you spent most of your life being an outsider, looking in on your family, feeling like they didn’t respect you or embrace you.

And now I’m CEO, co-CEO with my brother.

Yeah, and I just– I feel like you’re putting a lot of stock into that relationship. And while I–I hope that everything goes well, I don’t want you to be hurt if it doesn’t.

I appreciate you looking out for me. I really do, my love. But you have nothing to be concerned about. I know Philip. And I know myself. I’m going into this with my eyes wide open.

[sighs] I appreciate you worrying about me.

Well, it’s a full-time occupation.

Yeah, I get that. But I promise, Mom, everything will be fine.

Oh, thank God. Because nothing’s ever gone wrong after someone uttered those words.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, in this case, nothing will go wrong. Trust me.

I am going to trust you because I know that I’m overprotective. But I just want you to be safe, baby. I love you. I want you to get everything that you deserve.

I love you too. And hey, do you want to go grab something to eat in the square before I head over to the mansion?

OK, that’s very sweet of you to offer to keep your mother company on Valentine’s Day, but actually, I’m fine.

You sure?

Oh, yeah, I have great plans. I’m going to fix myself some milk and cookies, and I’m going to binge episodes of “The Traitors,” so…

Mm. Sounds like a plan.

Mm.

Happy Valentine’s Day.

Happy Valentine’s Day to you. Be careful.

Mm. Now I wish I’d turned off the lights. [chuckles]

Really? I–I–I don’t.

Yeah, but the room looks like such a disaster.

Yeah, I know. I mean, especially this bed. It’s so disheveled. It’s like something crazy happened here.

[chuckles]

What’s wrong?

Nothing. [sighs] It’s just, I was thinking about Rafe, how when I was growing up, he’d always tell me how important it was to wake up every morning and make my bed, clean my room. Uncluttered room, uncluttered mind.

That sounds like the Rafe I know.

Yeah, definitely not like the guy he’s been the last few weeks.

No.

You know, I– I just don’t understand how he could have done this to Jada. I mean, he humiliated her in front of half the town.

Yeah. I wish I had an answer. It’s just so weird that he would investigate her in the first place.

Yeah, it’s all weird.

You said you talked to her, right? How’s she doing?

About like you’d expect. I wanted her to know I’m on her side.

You believe she’s innocent?

Of course I do.

Same, which is why it just– it doesn’t make sense that Rafe supposedly found all this evidence against her.

You know, Jada’s convinced that EJ set her up, which sounds pretty reasonable to me, considering that he’s the one that hired Rafe to dig up dirt.

Well, then maybe it’s time I help Jada prove her innocence.

OK, this is it. This is the one. I can feel it.

OK, remember, aim for EJ’s smug face, all right?

Take that, you arrogant son of a bitch.

Oh!

Oh, yes! Oh, my God. I did it. Did you see that? I did it.

Yeah, I see it. You know what that means? That’s game.

Game? You–

You won.

I won?

Yes.

I beat you, really?

Really.

[laughs] Yes. Take that, you mansplaining– [country music] Wait a minute. You let me win, didn’t you?

What? No. I didn’t–no.

OK, now who’s the bad liar?

OK. I just–I felt that you needed a win. [soft music]

What I needed was a friend.

Thank you.

OK, there is something, isn’t there? Yeah, I just saw a little flash of guilt go across your eyes, didn’t I?

Belle, please understand that I did not set out to do any of this. Just one thing led to anoth– [phone ringing]

It’s Paulina. I’m sorry. I have to get this. [tense music] [clears throat] Hello, Madam Mayor. Oh? Uh-huh. OK. Well, thank you for calling.

[clears throat] Everything all right?

[groans]

You tried to get me fired? What the hell is wrong with you?

For the record, I didn’t ask Paulina to fire you so much as I asked her to give me my job back.

A job that I currently hold.

No offense, Belle, but is it not hypocritical of you to get angry about this, considering you took my job first?

I did not take your job. I was offered your job.

You see the irony here, right?

So–so, what, have you been– you’ve been plotting this behind my back the whole time?

[sighs]

Oh, is this what you were going to confess?

Well–

Well, I suppose that I should be grateful, right, that you were about to admit it?

Because I don’t enjoy lying to you, Belle. [tense music] But now that you know the whole truth… [clears throat] I assume this is goodbye.

You assume wrong. [dramatic music] [country music]

Hope you saved me some of those.

[laughing] Oh, honey, you’re back.

Of course I am.

Oh.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Katie. Happy Valentine’s Day.

Mm.

Oh, sorry. I didn’t know anyone was in here.

Well, now you do, so…

I thought you said you were going to the Bistro.

Yeah, just a wee change of plans. Sarah had a very long day.

Got it. Well, let me get out of your way.

Oh, no, no, no. Help yourself to a drink, and keep my wife company. I’m gonna grab our desserts from the kitchen.

OK. [tense music] Don’t worry. I’ll leave you alone. I need to unpack anyway.

You do that.

You’re OK with me moving in, right?

Well, I guess have to be. Xander wants you here.

So you don’t approve?

I have my reservations.

As did my mother.

Hmm. But I think it’ll be good for everyone in the long run.

It damn well better be.

[grunting]

[chuckles] You know, I could have carried it myself.

What, and risk you injuring your dart-throwing hand? No. Come on, there’s no way.

And you didn’t have to escort me home either.

Yeah, well, my mother basically drilled these manners into me. And you don’t defy Hope Brady.

[chuckles] Well, tell her thank you for me. You know, Stephanie gave me a key. I hope I didn’t leave it at the pub.

I mean, we could just try knocking.

Well, she texted me a little while ago. She’s still at dinner. So the place is empty. [light music]

I didn’t think you were going to be back till tomorrow.

You think I was gonna miss being with my very beautiful and very sexy wife on Valentine’s Day?

Mm-hmm. Well, you cut it pretty close.

Well, you should have seen the traffic.

Oh!

But hopefully… this will make up for it. [country music]

You don’t have to make up for it. I mean, you’re back. That’s all that matters.

Yeah, well, then maybe it’ll make up for what happened with “Body & Soul.” I know I told you on the phone this, but I am so sorry you had to give that show up.

I know. I’m gonna miss it. But I guess I’ll have to just put my efforts into some new endeavor, right?

That’s my Katie.

So what’s in it?

Well, why don’t we go upstairs and you can open it up after?

After what?

After “The Traitors.” [laughter]

Oh, my God, you know me too well. Wait, cookies. My darling. [laughter]

Believe me, Sarah, I don’t want the truth about that letter to come out any more than you do.

So we’re on the same page, then.

Absolutely.

Same page about what?

That I should take a room in the west wing.

Hmm, plenty of vacancies there.

Great. And I should go get settled.

Yeah, well, let us know if you need anything.

Thanks. Have a great night.

Philip, I just wanted to say that I’m glad you’re here.

Yeah?

Yeah. And I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating. I think our father would be very happy to see both his sons living under the same roof. It’s gonna be great for the company and the whole family.

I think that too.

Well, your dessert, madame. I brought this in from the outside world.

This isn’t from Sweet Bits.

It’s from the pub.

From the pub?

Go ahead and open it.

Huh. [tender music]

Xander, this is the same cake that I brought you.

That morning after Valentine’s Day a few years ago. It was such a perfect gift, I just had to reciprocate.

You do know that we’re already married, right?

Oh, I do.

[laughs]

Saying yes to you, best decision I ever made in my whole life.

I love you so much.

I love you with all my heart.

I’ll reach out to Shawn. We’ll look into all the allegations against Jada, see if anything links them to EJ.

Really? You’d do that?

Of course I would.

That’s amazing. I mean, if you’re able to prove that EJ was behind everything, well, I’ll…

You’ll what?

Well, I’ll start by… cleaning this room. [laughs]

Wow.

Mm.

Wow, you really mean business.

Yeah.

Look, are you sure you’re up for this? Going after EJ is never easy. [tense music]

After that bastard had me locked up for something I didn’t even do, I would love to see him put away for something he actually did.

I should get started right away.

Ah, ven aquí. Look, as much as I’d like to see EJ pay, it can wait till after Valentine’s Day.

Right.

Yeah.

No, it can definitely wait. [tender music]

I should go.

Yeah. Thanks for seeing me home.

Anytime. [dramatic music]

I can’t. Sorry. As much as I hate Rafe right now– and believe me, I really hate him…

I still love him.

Hey, I– I totally understand. I had a lot of fun tonight. But we got to make sure that we– we don’t do anything that we regret, especially considering you’re still thinking about Rafe and I’m still thinking about EJ and Belle.

So I assumed wrong that this is goodbye even though you threw a drink in my face.

I was upset.

Clearly.

But now that everything’s out in the open, I can be better prepared.

Prepared for what?

Whatever you’re gonna throw at me while you go after my job.

My job.

My job. And you should be warned, I give as good as I get.

Is that a threat?

What’s the matter? You afraid of a fair fight?

Oh, hardly. I look forward to it.

May the best DA win.

I will.

Brooke: This feels so right, having you back in the building. I’m not back. You should be. You and Eric should be here at Forrester. This is where you belong. Just like you belong at home with me. In our home. Not with Taylor. Text from your dad? No, but the way he left, I’m really wondering

if he ended up at Forrester.

[phone chimes] It’s possible.

What is it?

Oh, it’s… It’s Finn. He’s-he’s just working another double. I was really hoping he was gonna come home tonight. We haven’t really connected since our anniversary. We’ve kind of been like ships in the night right now. Mmm. Price to pay for marrying such a dedicated doctor. Oh, you mean all that care and dependability has a downside? Gee. Well, the upside is he never lets you down. No. He doesn’t. Well, I have two patients waiting on scans. [huffs] Yeah, I know you’re backed up. I’m swamped too. Okay. Well, just let me know. Thanks. My daughter? Did you know Ridge was gonna be here today? No! Quelle surprise! This is the first time he’s back in the office since he and Steffy lost control of the company. What’s he after? You…you have to know, though, that… Ridge didn’t come over here just to patch things up with you. He didn’t hold back. That’s for sure. Okay. So nothing’s changed. Not yet, but… I don’t know–for the first time, I feel like it could. Why? He was my best friend, Hope. And after seeing him, I don’t know, I’m wondering that maybe we’ve proven our point. Maybe it’s time to mend fences. [heavy music plays] What did Ridge say to you to make you question our work? Nothing. Well, can’t you at least let yourself take some pride in today’s accomplishment, with-with what we did with the jewelry line? I’m trying. I’m trying. It was a huge moment, but instead of celebrating, I feel like a traitor, like an imposter, Hope. Listen to me! They are purposefully planting seeds of doubt because they see that your plan is working. [whispering] Carter, you know yourself. You know that you are a good man. And you have nothing to be ashamed of, you hear me? Nothing. The last thing I was expecting today was seeing Uncle Ridge back at Forrester. Well, you don’t think he is, though–back? I mean, I doubt it. He, Steffy, and my grandfather were adamant that they wouldn’t work here under Hope and Carter after what they did. It was shocking to see Ridge. But it’s even more surprising to see him here with Brooke! I don’t think Steffy and Taylor would be thrilled about that. I’m so happy for you, sweetheart. I’m so proud of the life you’ve built with your beautiful family, the way you’ve handled this whole ordeal with the company, taking care of everyone, especially your father and grandfather. Well, I am my mother’s daughter. I see your namesake in you too. Stephanie would have fought this takeover just as hard as you have. Well, Hope definitely brings it out of me. She’s gone full Logan, just like Brooke. Please, Ridge, I know we can work through this. And how do we do this when you’re here with Hope and Carter? [scoffs] I don’t care about the CEO job. I’ll give it up. I just care about you. I want you back. HOPE: [whispers] Carter. You can’t let Ridge just… make you feel even more guilty than you already feel. I’m not letting him do anything, Hope. I already feel guilty. You know that. Taking over this company wasn’t an easy decision. For either of us. No, it wasn’t. But I still believe it was the right decision. So what now, we’re just– we’re going to overlook the way Steffy and Ridge have mistreated us? You did what you had to do in order to level the playing field. And I did it by tricking them out of their own company. You did it to save the company from their arrogant leadership, and now look. Forrester is flourishing. And they can see that. And instead of coming to you and apologizing and saying that maybe you were right, they want you to feel bad about it. Don’t let them. We worked so hard for this. And to just…allow them to– to come back and have a say when it was their toxicity that led to this division to begin with– I’m sorry, but no! We need designers. We have some designers. I’m sure we can find some more. And if Ridge really wants to come back and design, you have told him that he is welcome to. But as an employee. Because I am telling you right now that I will not answer to him. I will not answer to him or to Steffy. Never again.

Finn: I’ll never let you down again. I love you. Hey… -it’s you and me, Finn. -[chuckles] We can’t lose sight of that. And we can never let anything or anyone come between us again. Look, we’re really lucky to have so much love and support. Knowing that I have Finn by my side, I feel like I can face anything. Even taking orders from Hope temporarily.

Mm. It’s Daphne. Bonjour. Steffy… you’re on speaker. Uh, I’m at Forrester with Zende. We just saw your dad. Dad’s at Forrester? Oui. And he’s still here. And I hate to tell you– he was behind closed doors with Brooke. Brooke’s there? Yeah. I wish I could tell you more, but I don’t know what they’re discussing. I just thought you and Taylor would wanna know.

Ridge: Come on. You don’t want me. More than anything. You know what I want more than anything? Try to control your daughter. [sighs] God, please don’t make this about Hope. It’s always been about Hope. I just didn’t realize that until just now. Even when Thomas fell for her, you knew that she was never gonna commit to him. So you’re bringing Thomas into this. My son Thomas? Yeah! He moved half a world away because he wanted to get away from your daughter. I haven’t seen him, I haven’t seen my grandson in I don’t know how long. And Steffy, she’s walking around here trying to find something to do. My dad is sitting on his couch at home, wondering what happened to the company he created! All because of your daughter. Because she wanted something. And she used my friend, my best friend, to get it. And that is unforgiveable. [dramatic chords] We haven’t been running things that long, but things are already better than they used to be. I mean, it’s our time now. When I was in law school, I couldn’t wait to be a litigator. I wanted to get to court, and I wanted to win. But I had a professor, and she said that winning isn’t enough. It’s how you do it that matters. Everything rests on integrity and honesty. It’s what separates the good from the bad. That’s what she said. Now, it wasn’t our intentions to betray anyone. We didn’t do this for payback or revenge. We had the most positive, genuine motives… but it came at a cost. [whispers] Yes. Okay, fine. Right. Ridge is angry. He’s upset. And we knew he would be. But why does his dignity get to matter more than ours? I mean, where’s the care when he just stands by and lets his daughter destroy my relationships and call me names like slut. I understand that this has impacted your friendship with Ridge and my mother’s relationship with him as well, but I am not going to continue to bend over backwards to appease a man who is incapable of taking accountability for his own actions. I refuse. This company is in the right hands. Your hands. And if Ridge comes back, it is going to be on our terms, not his. Look, Mom, I-I know that you’re upset right now, but of course Brooke was gonna corner Dad the moment he stepped inside the building. Any chance that she can get to work on him, she’ll take it. But you know that’s not why he went there, right? Your father’s been very open about how much their estrangement hurts him. Mom, you don’t have to worry about that. Honey, I’m not. I mean it. I’ve wasted years of my life bothered by her, letting Brooke chip away at my peace of mind. If your father wanted to be with her, he wouldn’t be living here with me. Yeah, you’re right. I’m just sorry she’s not letting Ridge move on with his life. I mean, I wouldn’t be surprised if right now she’s begging him to come back to her. Hope’s not using Carter. They’re in love. They’re in love. Does she love him the way she loved Thomas or the way she loved Finn? She’s made some mistakes. But you’re saying she’s not accountable for any of them. She just wanted to be respected

and supported.

Oh, I see. And Carter’s the first guy that ever did that for her. Okay, but that doesn’t mean she gets to take someone’s dignity away, someone’s life’s work away. I talked to Carter about it. He gets it. He knows this is wrong. And I think behind all this, you know it’s wrong. The only person that doesn’t know it’s wrong

Brooke?

Yeah. I mean, for years, she was a dark cloud hanging over my life, a constant reminder of the things I wanted to forget. But she’s just a person. I can even admit that she has some good qualities. Wow. Okay. Well, a lot of faults as well. [chuckling] Ridge has seen them all. Ah, I used to wonder about that. If he could see them. If he was blind to them. But your father has grown so much, and so have I. Not only do I trust him, but I trust myself and what I see in his eyes. His love and commitment for me are real. Oh, Mom, I’m so happy for you and Dad. I really am. [soft music plays] You know I don’t like saying any of these things to you. Because deep down you know it’s not true. Oh, it’s true. Of course it’s true. Your daughter’s the source for this whole problem. Logan, we made Hope. She’s a big star all over the world because of Forrester, but she wanted more. She always wants more. And she wanted revenge. And with you– with you supporting her, she’s gonna terrorize everybody in this building. Ridge, Hope wasn’t terrorizing anybody! She worked hard for her position. And she was under constant threat by Steffy, over and over again! Steffy canceled her line. She fired her.

That’s no excuse.

Okay. Whatever. This is ridiculous! We can’t keep arguing over our children’s issues. I know you’re frustrated. I’m frustrated too. But you know how you handled it? You… you turned to another woman. I didn’t do that. I didn’t turn to anybody. Because the man that I’m meant to be with… is standing right here. Right here in front of me. [emotional music plays]
